Everything was done very well by American Home Shield. I had to use them twice this year, but each time, I got my money's worth. Submitting a claim has been pretty efficient and speaking with the rep went smooth. The contractor was a pro. He was very professional, and completed what he had to do. I'd recommend AHS.

The clothes washer overflowed and I called American Home Shield. A guy came to fix it and said he found nothing wrong. It operated okay for a couple of weeks and then it was the same issue. Then he came out and said that he had to look into the parts. He eventually called me and said they can’t get the parts to fix it and that they would be in touch with me in a couple of days. When they weren’t in touch me for a period of time, I called and the washer was supposed to be replaced. The first call it took 45 minutes to get to a person, then they said they can only take initial claims but not work orders and that I have to call another number. So, I called that number, another 45 minutes. I got someone who took all of my information and then said that they can’t order the new appliance for me and that I’ll have to call another number.

So, I called that number and it was at least 45 minutes and finally, that lady was able to order the parts and order the washer and it will be here in 5 to 14 days. The last two people that I talked to were very professional and very nice. But they should have a number for work orders and they should have enough people to answer the phone so that someone is not left holding for 45 minutes. And when I send e-mails, they have no reply. So, it was frustrating as can be trying to communicate with somebody you can’t get in touch with and your washing machine hasn’t worked in two weeks. Although, I like the fact that they're bringing me a new washer.

The water hose that goes to the automatic water or ice dispenser split and was leaking. Also, one of the cams on the refrigerator door was broken. When it opened up, it should automatically swing shut and it wouldn’t. The technician whom American Home Shield sent was polite, did his job, and things worked out. He called before he came out, so we knew when to expect him and he was there when he said he would be there. He was prompt when he said he had to order parts. They immediately called us when the parts were available and when they would be back out. There was just no dilly-dallying at all which was nice. We were also kept in contact with the entire time.

American Home Shield sent a guy to work on our claim and he checked some stuff out and he ran some tests then he got back with me. He got the part ordered in but it took about four days or so and he showed up with the same issue. Then he said he doesn’t know what to do and that somebody will get back to me. And about a week later I got a call from another guy from a different company. He comes out and he runs the test where he got the same error code that this guy got.

He said, “I need to go in and do some stuff. I'll get back with you.” So almost two weeks went by and he worked on it again. Over a week went by and I called back and on the phone for 30 minutes or more just to get in and get the okay. We got to contact the guy and once he signed up the diagnosis on it and so then I called the guy directly and he never returned my call or anything. And then about a couple of days later I got a call from him saying I got to pull it up. He showed up and he put this part in and it worked.

My concern is with the communication in the time with him, receiving the part, doing the research and stuff because the guy said that it did not apply to this microwave and stuff. I'm a little frustrated with them but now we recommend them. It took a lot of time and he didn’t really communicate and step up but he did fix the problem. I just skipped one of the other companies out there.

We had an electrical issue where an exterior wall was not working. So, we called American Home Shield and they came out. They couldn’t find anything wrong with it, but they later got back out and replaced the socket. AHS is very responsive, and they get things pretty quickly. And if there’s any issues, they get back again. It’s a good program, and it has been taking care of us.

We found a leak in the water heater closet. We called American Home Shield and they made contact with their vendor. The vendor made contact a few days later and scheduled us. They came out, evaluated the issue, and made a temporary fix to keep the water from leaking. Then they came back out. The plumber made all of the reservations with us directly, in lieu of going through American Home Shield and back to us, to replace the pipe itself. So, that experience was fantastic. There was some secondary damage that was done as the plumbers had to cut the sheet rock to get to the pipe, and the plumber said they were going to take care of it. When the guy got there, he told us that he had to get it approved before he'd go any further. There was some confusion there if it was going to be covered through American Home Shield or not, but we haven't heard back yet.

During the temporary fix and the permanent fix, the plumbers were awesome. They were very well-spoken, very professional, very knowledgeable. They're trained so it was nice. American Home Shield did what they needed to do. There are some things that they don't cover that I feel they should cover, but it was a good experience.

When the washer started to fail on and off, we submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the process was very easy. If one tries, however, to get ahold of a live person on the phone, it is horrible as you have to wait for at least half an hour before anybody gets answers. Then, they transfer you to another person which will take another half an hour to an hour. Also, they don't have any email where one can get through them. But, once you finally speak to a person, its actually pretty nice and they help you as much as they can. I've had one horrible experience though where I had to ask not to have that service tech ever sent out to my house again. He also has horrible Yelp reviews. Then I've had two technicians who are very professional and courteous. After that, everything has been smooth. I've been with AHS for four years since I bought my house.

Then he set everything up for me as quickly as possible. The nice personable young man that was sent out was very efficient and knew exactly what he was doing. He called me ahead to let me know he was on his way. He then ordered all the parts, had them sent to our house, and set up the appointment to come back for a week later to be sure all the parts would be in. I would recommend him to anybody. My washing machine is working wonderfully and now a pleasure to use.

The contractor AHS sent out for our plumbing issue was knowledgeable on everything that needed to be done. The pressure was running low and was making sounds but it's been doing better since the repair. The pressure wasn’t covered under the policy, though, which the contractor only discovered while he was working on what he initially thought it involved. There was an additional problem which was fixed at a later time.

American Home Shield is good to have in case something goes wrong and just want to have it repaired. But sometimes, it takes a couple of days for them to come out and fix things like with my air conditioner which took over a month to get it done. It took three times for the people to come out here and know exactly what the problem was. And then we had to pay the provider before they even do the work and we’re talking over $2,000 just to make them install it. We also have a problem with calling back to get information. We have to wait an hour to get somebody on the phone. But once we get the service, it gets done. Also, the co-pay keeps going up. It used to be $40 and now it's at $75. We’ve been with American Home Shield since 2003 and they've been fine but it just seems like they have gotten progressively worse.

Most of the time when there was a claim, American Home Shield did their best to get out of it. I had a problem with the kitchen faucet. I tried to unscrew the nozzle on it to where it comes out of the faucet to see if I can clear some trash out of it, and all the pieces came out. They were the plastic filtering mechanisms, and I threw them in the trash. I called American Home Shield, paid them, paid the technician, and American Home Shield told me that there was no coverage because of the parts that I threw away.

Another time, I called them out on a refrigerator and they sent a technician out. I told the guy that they needed to replace the seal on the freezer compartment because it was frosting up badly in the freezer section. He said I didn’t need a seal. He used this hair dryer and warmed it up a little bit. That kind of fixed the problem for a day or two, and then it commenced right back up to doing what it was doing.

Meanwhile, I paid American Home Shield a bunch of money and expected them to replace the seal which wasn’t an option. They weren’t going to do it and the technician wasn’t going to do it, and so I lost some more money. I couldn’t get my way so I ended up doing what I could do to correct the thing as it went along. And every time I call American Home Shield, I have to stay on hold for at least 30 minutes. I don’t appreciate that at all. Though I’ve had a couple of claims that were taken care of correctly, American Home Shield is way too difficult to deal with. I'm very dissatisfied.

When I tried to run our dishwasher it didn't work. It was extremely calcified and the circuit board had mildew underneath it. So I called AHS and they replaced that top circuit board and then they put some stuff in it to decalcify, which was better than store-bought stuff. It helped out a lot. The dishwasher still needs a little bit more decalcification but other than that it works very well. I'm happy I don't have to handwash all my dishes.

I was satisfied with the experience. The only thing is it took them a couple of days to find somebody. But the technicians were super nice and polite. There's two of them. There's a young kid, and he seemed very knowledgeable. I was surprised because he looked like he was 12. Then there was an older gentleman. They were quick to get in and out of the house and didn't mind the fact that my cat kept getting in the way. I would totally recommend AHS to a friend.

As soon as I knew we were closing on selling our house on August 18, 2017, I called American Home Shield to cancel our account as of that date. I was assured it would be done. Then we were charged for another month in September and I called again to confirm that our account was closed as of August 18. I was told that it was and that the charge would be reversed. Then on October 7 we were charged again for another month of service. I called again and they showed that the account was still open and said that they would close it as of August 18 and reimburse my payments. Then on November 15 I noticed that we were again charged and another call was made and the agent assured me that the account would be closed and the payments made would be reimbursed.

I took up the issue with my credit card company to dispute the charges and they called AHS and were told that I didn't close my account soon enough and I would be charged the monthly fee. They put the fee back on my card. I spent 45 minutes waiting to speak with someone at AHS and when I did get through the agent told me that the account wasn't closed until November and I would be charged for the two months after August 18 anyway. I was told by the agent I spoke with in November that if I sent my closing document to prove I sold the house on August 18 then they would reimburse me for the charges. I emailed the agent directly with the CD and never heard another word. This company doesn't do what they say they will do and are in it for the money. I cannot and will not recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

Over 2+ months with no water heater and it is still unresolved. Took off work four times for assessments and repairs that we not successful. Spent 15+ hours trying to speak to a customer service rep. Average wait time to speak to a customer service rep is 50+ minutes. The system will hang up on you about 50% of the time without speaking to a person. AHS reps have admitted that this is a known problem with their phone system. Multiple times the AHS reps did not enter the call notes into their system which delayed the ordering of the correct unit by over a week.

The wrong water heater was ordered. For a few hundred dollars, an electrician could run a 220v line less than 10 feet and use the water heater that was in-hand. AHS did not present that as an option and told me my only option was for them to fabricate a custom water heater which would take 4-6 weeks to arrive. I believe the AHS rep that discussed this with me did not present running a new 220 line as an option because AHS does not want to be out the cost for the electrician and the new water heater.

Received notice two weeks into that process that the new water heater had arrived. Took off of work and no, it was the same model that had been ordered before. The only reason I have a direct extension that I can call and reach a person is that I complained on several social media channels. While I have a direct contact, they only serve to placate me versus offering solutions. I'm now over two months without a water heater. I've changed holiday plans for Thanksgiving and now Christmas because my house doesn't have hot water. I know that the management at AHS would never accept 2-3 months without a water heater. This is the worst customer service I have experienced in my lifetime.

Stay away from this company. I have only been with them approximately 6 months. My fridge broke down and I told my husband "don't worry I signed up with AHS". When I first joined AHS I specifically asked questions about fridge coverage. I had told them I've had one for many years and are worried it may breakdown one day soon. The man assured me and re-assured me and told me I had no worries that my fridge is covered up to $5000.00!!! to replace.

Well, few months later my fridge did break down and they sent a reputable company who told they needed to replace one of the boards and it would take 3-4 months to get that part. In other words, I would be without a fridge for 3-4 months while the part was being refurbished since my part was no longer available to purchase. I did not accept. I need a fridge! The first person in the settlement department offered me $250.00, the second offered me $275.00 white cheap fridge to replace my stainless steel $3500.00 fridge.

From here on I had to wait a long time on the phone to speak to someone everytime I called. All I can tell you is it was very difficult to speak to someone that can help you. They are not out to do business, they are out to RIP you off. First of all they lied and told me my fridge is covered for up to $5000.00. You would think you would get a reasonable amount of money to replace with new. It is not right for them to be doing business this way. I ended canceling our contract and told them to KEEP the $250.00!! I'm very dissatisfied with this company. They never tried to reach out to me until after my cancelation, the letters started to pour in letting me know they were sad to see me go. What a bunch of bull!! STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

The rep said she was going to give me a new washer for $399. All I expected was she was going to send me a check and I would take care of my washer, but she wanted me to buy the washer, scan the receipt to her, and to speak with these people. It takes an eternity. I'm still waiting for American Home Shield to reimburse me at least part of the money. We had a leak behind the refrigerator so I called AHS. The contractor said that the leak was in the piping for the refrigerator. Despite the contract that I was sent, saying what my mother had in her coverage, when the contractor was here he said it was not covered so he left. They said I had to call an appliance repairman. I tried to get ahold of AHS because of the discrepancy and AHS was absolutely miserable to get ahold of. I am put on hold for more than 30 minutes repeatedly. As far as I'm concerned they don't have a response to customers.

We paid the $75 for this guy to come out and he tells us he wouldn't fix it. Then I had to call somebody else privately to come out. He was here yesterday. He questioned me, "Did you tell me that a plumber was here?" I said yes. He said, "This was just a little leak in the tubing. It was right on the outside of the refrigerator." The plumber very easily could have clipped it, just the way the appliance repairman did and put a connector in to resolve the problem. But the plumber chose not to do that.

I am ready to cancel. I find AHS below par. They're absolutely impossible to get ahold of and talk to. I sent an email and I don't know if they're responding to the email or not. It seems like their company is in business to collect money from people and my mother just paid an almost $300 check to them plus paying the $75 to not get her problem fixed. I find AHS and their service abysmal.

We had a problem with our microwave where it was coming up with an error code. It was saying that the keypad was bad and it could possibly turn itself on and cause a fire. So we shut down the circuit and I contacted American Home Shield. I told them what was going on and they told me that they’d have somebody contact me. The first person was a GE representative. But they couldn’t come for a couple of weeks. So, I called AHS back and they said that they would have somebody come over and take a look at it. So Bob from Bob’s Appliance came over the day after I contacted them.

He checked it out and said that the keyboard was bad and he tried to locate the part, and he couldn’t locate it. So he contacted AHS and they said that they would try to get a hold of the part and that we had to give them a week or two to do that. But then, a couple of days later, I got a call from Bob saying that AHS told him they couldn’t locate the part either. And the next day, I got an email from AHS asking me to send them a copy of the invoice for a new microwave and that they would pay it minus the $75 service fee, for anytime somebody comes out and check it out. So I am currently waiting for money from AHS to replace the microwave.

The AHS people that I talked to were very cordial. Things went along quickly which was a lot better than with the homeowners. On the other hand, Bob was great too. He was very knowledgeable. He came in, diagnosed the problem, tried to order the part and did everything on his tablet. And then, when it came to submitting the report to AHS, he didn’t wait to do the paperwork. He called them directly and waited until he got somebody on the phone, told him exactly what was going on so he wouldn’t hold up the claim at all. He tried to make everything go as quickly as possible. He’s such a friendly guy. He’s really nice. If we ever needed any of our appliances fixed, we’ll definitely call him because he was really good.

The only issue I have with them was when I got on the phone, they tell on the recording that it’s going to be a 30-minute wait. It took me 36 minutes before they actually answer the phone and I could tell them what was going on. I did that twice where I had to call them. Once AHS get the information, everything is handled. But how long you have to wait on the phone is ridiculous. I’m retired so I just put the phone on speaker and I do what I had to do. The recording said the wait is over 30 minutes, and it was. Each time I called, it was a really long wait. So they really need to clean it up.

American Home Shield has been wonderful with me. The house I purchased was built by a German merchant marine so some of his ideas about some of the appliances and the way things were put into place weren’t conforming with American standard. Also, the appliances are Gaggenau which are very high-end appliances and most of the local repairmen just know how to take it out and put a new one in and a lot of that has happened. The best guy we found locally was Al's Appliance. They came out here six times in order to get the refrigerator stay cold. They knew the property and they said that they had replaced the compressor two years ago so it wasn’t the compressor. They fixed the freezer really easily but we had a hard time getting the fan on the refrigerator. It was such a pain. American Home Shield has been working with me but it seems like when I get one thing fixed, something else goes.

I had two wall ovens and I found out on Thanksgiving that one wall oven doesn’t get hot anymore. Larry, the tech from Al’s refrigeration he said that the coil at the bottom is not working. He called Gaggenau and they said that the appliance is 30 years old and they don’t keep parts that long. Larry said that if he can’t get a part, he can’t fix it so I have to replace it. I also had a claim regarding the cooktop and American Home Shield replaced it with a Kenmore that was 20 by 36. It would cover the cooktop part but the piece that was in there right now has a big piece of metal attached to it that’s a part of the counter so I don't know if I have to buy a complete set of appliances to accommodate the American standard appliances that I have as replacement or do I need to remodel.

It’s not American Home Shield that is the limiting factor here. It has been that they’re trying to work with a unique situation. I’ve been working on the electric system since February and they have been slow. The electric has two systems in it. It has a GE system and it has Lutron system, which was intended for mood lighting but about 35 years ago, you couldn’t have dimmer switches because that technology wasn’t here. I told the tech that I don't really need the mood lighting. All I need is for the switches that are at the wall to turn off and on but unfortunately, the chandeliers and the lights down below are attached to the Lutron system. When Sears was supposed to come out and look at the dishwasher, they said that they couldn't make it for another couple of weeks so I called American Home Shield and they sent Al's out again. The dishwasher was no problem because they’re going to replace it.

American Home Shield has been working with me for a year and they have spent so much money helping me to fix things up. Whenever I call in, I would have a repairman within 24 hours. They listen to me but when I call them, I always have to be prepared to be on the computer for about three hours. It takes them forever to answer the phone. But, they were the one that helped me get the tech who got the boiler up and going. It took him six weeks and we froze and we flooded but when it was fixed, it was so nice and I love it. Also, as as far as getting a project that is daunting done, they’ve been amazing.

I had a $2000 washer and it broke when a bearing went out. So, I called American Home Shield, they sent out a guy, the guy called and said, "Well, it's going to cost". I called in September and they said they’ll get somebody out. That guy came out within two days and said that I needed a new part. So, he called American Home Shield and they said, "Well, it's cheaper to buy the parts than it is to deal with the washer, you know, to replace the washer." I said that's absolutely fine and that went on for two weeks and they said 10 to 15 days or something for parts. American Home Shield called me and said, "No, it’s going to be three to five weeks". That was in September and we rolled through September and October, and I finally called American Home Shield and said, "You know, what's the deal? I'd like to have a washer, I've been without a washer since September". They said, "Well, the parts are on back order, we can't help it".

Then, American Home Shield sent me a deal that said they'll replace my washers. So, they offered to give me $600, which is what the parts were going to cost to get my washer fixed. $600 doesn't cover the washer and that's not what I paid them for. And they said, "Well, that's the cheapest out of the two of replacing it or parts," and I said, "Well then, order the parts," because I'm not going to eat $1400 on a washing machine. Then they went on for another two weeks. Finally, they delivered my washer Saturday. Seven days before that, American Home Shield sent me an email and told me to call them. I called and sat on hold for three hours, which is the normal process, and they decided to replace my washer. So, I said, "Okay that's fine," and they gave me the model number. I said, "That's cool." I went and looked at it, it was perfect and fine.

They bought the washer through Sears, Sears sent the washer Saturday and it has a factory defect and dumps all the water in my laundry room. It's been 100% nightmare. So, I called LG and they said they would replace, but the only way they would replace it was I had to call American Home Shield to have them call LG. So, I did that then LG said, "Well, we'll just send somebody out", but they couldn't get anybody out for two weeks so then I called Sears, and Sears sent somebody out yesterday. That guy said that it's a factory defect and to call Sears today after 24 hours and see but I would've liked to have had American Home Shield send me some kind of a proof of purchase because if I'd have walked into Sears and bought that washer myself, then when it dumped water on my floor, I could've put it back in the back of my truck and drove it to Sears, and got it exchanged.

But I couldn't do that because I had no way to do that because American Home Shield bought the washer. The contractor that came out was directly through Sears. American Home Shield wasn't going to send anybody out and they said that it was LG's problem because they had already paid for the washer and now it's LG, the manufacturer, should have to do it. The interactions with the claim people are fine once you get a hold of somebody but you sit on hold for an hour to get a hold of American Home Shield, to transfer you to the parts people that buy the stuff. I sat on hold for two hours and 47 minutes on Monday trying to get through to American Home Shield, and that's every time.

About three and half weeks ago, our dishwasher stopped working. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and my experience was fantastic. It was my first time to report a claim and I did it over the phone. They had a huge volume of people that needed help and I was on hold for more than 10 minutes. But my interaction with their reps was very cordial and professional. The contractors they sent out from Hornet were very professional, too. Two of them came and they made sure that the dishwasher was on and responding to what it's supposed to do. Everything was working right. But after they fixed the dishwasher, we didn’t use it since we didn’t have anything to wash that time.

Then two days later, when we needed to use it, we found out that it's leaking. We had to get a big towel and start to clean-up the water on the floor. We've tried to use it three times since they came to fix it, and the problem persists so I decided to call today to report it. Overall, American Home Shield is a very nice company and I would tell others that the warranty is really worth it because you never know when things in the house might get out of hand. Having that protection would definitely give one peace of mind.

All the claims I had before pretty much had problems and a lot of the contractors were bad or did the absolute minimum. The problem is that American Home Shield will keep fixing something that's almost unfixable and if they can't find the parts, the consumer sits, suffers, and waits until they do get the parts. It could be months because some of this stuff is very old equipment, but they will never replace it. And some thing is so broken and they couldn't find the part because it's too old, so they figure they'll try to do something. So then we had to suffer for three weeks until they could finally find something. One claim even took two months. When I need to talk to somebody about a problem, I've waited hours. But if it's just a computer-generated thing, it's fine.

I've had the warranty for over 20 years now and it's to the point where I've had them that long and I hate to tell them that some of the equipment, especially on my pool, needs to be replaced. It keeps breaking every couple of months. I had just called somebody else to have my heater fixed in August or September and I had to call them back out again in November. I wouldn't recommend AHS to somebody. They don't resolve their problems. I was about ready to cancel and just save my money for a new heater because I keep having to spend the money to have techs come out. If it wasn't for the pool equipment, I wouldn't have them at all.

We've been having an air conditioner problem off and on for the past year and a half. It's an older unit, the outside unit. American Home Shield has sent someone out three times. The first two times, the techs changed out the motor saying that was the problem. It would last for about six months, and then it would go out again. The last time a tech came out, the guy said that the previous techs put the wrong motor on, but he said the problem was not in the motor. The problem was there was a leak and there was no refrigerant.

I'd been putting out $450 each time for refrigerant because what the previous tech would do was they would change the motor. So they'd fill up the refrigerant while I get to pay the difference. American Home Shield would only pay $10. I get to pay $50 per pound, which was nine pounds each time. But they never changed the valve 'cause they kept saying it was the motor. I was a bit perturbed because I felt like I'd been paying the $75 service charge each time, not to mention the excess on the refrigerant. That was my portion of it, which was quite costly.

I called American Home Shield and I got no satisfaction from my conversation with the rep. The girl was telling me, “When they come out, you can give us a call.” I said, “It took me an hour and a half to get through to you. This repairman is not going to wait an hour and a half while I try to connect with someone.” I even asked her, “Is there a number that we could call when the repairman is here?” She said, “No, there's not. You just have to go through the process.” It was not a good experience at all. They should be able to have either a direct number or a case number that we could call in or some way that we can get through to them when we have a situation like this without having to go through customer service and wait. I've had American Home Shield for 18 years, ever since we've been in this house, and I'm considering changing from them mostly because they wouldn’t step in and come to my rescue on this.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. The most recent one was with the refrigerator. I submitted the claims over the computer and my online experience was fantastic. The contractor for the dryer was perfect. He fixed the problem. The contractor for the refrigerator was very personable and professional but the problem wasn’t resolved because the refrigerator wasn’t making a noise at that time. I had recorded the noise and I let him listen to the recording, thinking that with his knowledge and professionalism he would recognize what the noise was. But there was nothing that he could do at that time because the refrigerator wasn’t doing noise. He just looked in there and took some pictures from behind the freezer drawer. As far as going inside the back to say if anything was wrong, that didn’t happen. I just wasted $75 because I knew what he told me.

The refrigerator has done noise twice since he left. As a matter of fact, the night that he was here, it happened at 9:12 at night and at 2:00 in the morning. So I just said, well he’s not going to come out now so I just let it go. When the noise happens, it’s very irritating. I can hear it all over the house but it eventually goes away. The contractor said it might be ice buildup that’s accumulating near the fan where in the years that we’ve had that refrigerator, it hasn’t happened. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has been outstanding and getting them was one of the best things that I’ve ever done, and I tell other people that.

So I'm just waiting to hear back from them because other than that, you can't get through when you call the line, it says an hour wait.

The subcontractor gave me a number that they use to contact AHS and I sat on the phone for 30 minutes on that number and just hung up. AHS sent me an email on the second of December. They asked about the dishwasher and I answered the questions via email. I responded to it and asked all the questions about the dishwasher and I haven't heard from them since. It was something in the board up top and it was not affecting the dryer anyway as the dryer was working. He was awesome. He went over and beyond just to figure out what was going on. I usually call American Home Shield to submit a claim then they set up the service and I get an email of who's coming. But sometimes it's quite long to talk to someone. Also, the one time I was able to talk to somebody, I would have to call them and have to be on hold for 45 minutes. I think that when their purchasing department buys a replacement, then they should have someone that you can talk to personally, follows up with you and the job because that’s where I think the problem is, they have too many departments.

My outside faucet was leaking, so I had American Home Shield come out, and they told me that they had to go to the wall. It was one of those grey areas that I figured would be covered. However, they didn’t cover everything because it was a faucet that went from the inside of the garage to the outside. So, it was and inside-outside thing. But they said that I had a backup secondary faucet way up in the garage that shut the one on the outside off. So, he shut it off for me, and the leaking outside stopped. I also had an electrical problem, where I had a couple of outlets broken, and they came out and fixed it really quick. However, the worst part about American Home Shield is the waiting time. I’m on the phone for half an hour to an hour every time I have to call for something. They show a separate number for different things, but the are all routed into one number. I’ve also been disconnected four or five times after waiting for 20 or 45 minutes.

I wanted to change my credit card, so I told them that I want to give them a new card. But they kept the old, as well as the new one. So, they were charging me monthly from one credit card, and the service call from the other. I then told them that I wanted to eliminate one of the cards, but they didn’t do that either. That took me two calls, which was an hour and 15 minutes worth of waiting. I almost feel like quitting on them and go to some other company because I can’t stand the waiting time.

They tell me that I can go online to submit the claim, but I can’t do that because I’m 71, I have glaucoma, and can’t see computers. All I got is my phone. So, they should have a separate service number, a separate number for your credit card, another for asking general questions, as well as for people who can’t do it online. Other than the waiting time on the phone, they’re really good, and they pay on time. The companies they use are also pretty good. They're really honest workers, and I’m satisfied with their work.

Our hot water dispenser went out. The dishwasher also went out about the same day. We thought that both were supposed to be appliances, but it turned out that one was plumbing, and the other was appliance. The contractor came out for the hot water dispenser. He said it was beyond repair so he ordered a new one. He came in and put it in. He was very polite, efficient, clean, and everything worked beautifully.

As for the dishwasher, the technician came out and said that it needed a new motor. He ordered the part and it took about three weeks. He called us a couple of days ago to say the part was in, and he wanted to come out to repair it. But we are out of town, so he's coming Monday. I've always been told to get an authorized Bosch service person so I asked him if he was an authorized Bosch service person. He said, "I fix dishwashers." So, that was probably no. My only concern is I want to be sure that it's repaired properly, not just "I fix dishwashers."

I wanted to order them both on one call online, and the American Home Shield webpage did not allow for that. When I finally phoned and talked to someone, they said that I can do up to six appliances on one service call. But they said that it was a problem with the website. Also, when I ordered the hot water dispenser online to be repaired, there was no box to check for it. So, I had to choose the closest thing to it which was a water heater, which it really isn't. Then they were sending somebody out to do a water heater, and I had to explain it was for the hot water dispenser, which I looked up on our policy to make sure it was covered, and it was. The website needs more boxes to check and a place to make comments. Nevertheless, we've recommended American Home Shield to other people.

Our recent claim involved our refrigerator. It started failing in the summer. AHS sent out one of their service people. He thought maybe it was just a maintenance issue. He vacuumed out one of the coils and said he couldn't test the compressor. He thought that would be the end of it, but wasn't. He came back again a week or so later, and yeah, there's a problem with the compressor. He came back a third time for that.

The first contractor they sent out was not very well prepared. He showed up late, but put the compressor in. He wanted to come back the next day to finish. I told him that wasn't an option, so he finished that night. It worked for a couple of weeks. It was really strange, and then it quit working again. They sent out another contractor, who couldn't have been more different from the first in terms of being punctual, if not early. He also kept us posted on what they were going to do. He identified another problem that he thought would be the end of it. He got the part a week or so later, came back, and put an evaporator coil in.

After five visits from two very different organizations, I have to give American Home Shield credit. They agreed to replace it. They asked for some information on what we currently have, specifically. A couple of days later, we got a link to pick out one of a number that they offered, either at no cost, or some additional cost to us. We picked one out. It was shipped to us and we got it within about a week.

While it took longer than I would like it to, the ultimate resolution couldn't have been better for us. AHS was very fair with us throughout it all. I also have found in the past with other things that they've fixed to replace that if you're unhappy with the first service team they send out, they have others that can often be better. At the end of the day, we're very happy and completely taken care of. AHS certainly lives up to their obligation. You just need to be a little patient.

The company told me what time frame the technicians would be coming out and asked if I were available. They set the appointment then they immediately sent me a text with that confirmation of the day of the appointment. The technicians called me when they were on their way to the property and they also called me when they were on the property. After they did the particular repair, they called to tell me what they found and what they needed to do.

They were very professional, made sure I understood what it was that they were telling me because I had an 18-year-old there at the property while I was at work. They had me on speaker phone the whole time so that I could hear what was going on. They also gave me future suggestions for some other things that I may need. If I had any questions, if anything happens or if I had any more problems with the particular appliance, I was to give them a callback. They were very accommodating and helpful. They also sent me a thank you text afterward for having their business.

I’m glad that the furnace is fixed and working really well. It was good that the technicians were able to get on out here because of the weather. It was fair that time but now, it started to drop some. American Home Shield is my handyman and I’m just glad I made that investment to use their company. First of all it takes more than 1 hour just to get a hold of someone on the phone. Our water heater broke and was leaking during Thanksgiving. We called American Home Shield and they sent a guy 3 days after the call, the guy didn't do anything but assess the problem and made a report which took another 3 days, only to find out we needed a plumber instead. Our floors are starting to flood and the laminate wood floor is rising all over my kitchen. They sent another person after calling them, took another 2 days, the guy assessed the situation and still didn't do anything, he had to submit another report. Meanwhile our kitchen floors are completely flooded. We were told we can fix it ourselves and will be reimbursed for it. We spent $2500 for water heater installation. They only want to pay us $600. The people on the phone were rude. This is a horrible experience. We will be looking for another insurance company.

I walked into my house on a Thursday afternoon and it was about 80 degrees. I called American Home Shield and did the automated system. I set it up, paid them the $75 then I hung up. But I got a text message saying that the company would call me within 48 hours to set up an appointment which I was very upset about. I have asthma and a baby in the house over the weekend. I can't handle that. I called back again and waited for 30 plus minutes before a representative got on the phone. I also texted back saying 48 hours was not acceptable and to contact me.

I was still on hold on my house phone for American Home Shield and Pro Air, the AC company, called me. I explained to the rep about asthma and that I can't handle the 69 plus degrees from Friday until Sunday. The rep was very apologetic. By that time, it was 5:00 on Thursday. She said that I could get scheduled for first thing Saturday morning between 8:00 and 12:00 and she asked me to ask AHS to expedite my request. ProAir was extremely good and I'm very happy with them. I went back to my home phone and AHS finally came on after 35 minutes. The rep had a I-don't-give-a-care attitude. He sounded irritated and said that the only way it would be expedited is if it was 102 degrees. But it felt like 102 degrees.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said that I could wait on hold for a while but they would tell me the same thing and that they don't expedite anything. I was extremely frustrated. I didn't tell them that the AC company had told me they would expedite it for me and I just hang up. AHS said that it would only be Monday or Tuesday before they get to me which upset me, but Pro Air came in on Saturday morning and it took them less than five minutes to fix my AC. It was fantastic that I paid $75 and got my AC running and the service company that came out was awesome, but the one interaction I had with AHS sucked.

The claims process at American Home Shield was extremely easy. I had a problem with the pipes. They seemed clogged in one of the bathrooms, and I was trying to make sure it wasn’t something more damaging in the pipes outside of a clog. Since I'm the only one in the family that does the claims submission, I logged on to the account and looked at my warranty and saw what’s covered underneath that. From that point, I just clicked and a service order was created.

The contractor that was sent out came out the day that was in the time frame. I called on a Wednesday and asked somebody to come out on a Friday just because I noticed that the pipes were kind of sluggish. I thought I had time. But that Wednesday evening, it was actually clogged. So, I called again and they had somebody out on Thursday. That was a pleasant delight. And the contractor was very professional. He even gave me some tips to help avoid it, which was music to my ears, because I can pass some information along to my wife. Since the repair, I haven’t had any other issues. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

The rep I spoke to over the phone was extremely nice. I had to call back because I wasn’t able to get an appointment and she diligently worked until I got one. The first contractor they sent didn’t resolve the problem. The second contractor fixed it though. He was good and wonderful. The customer service really stood out. It was very easy submitting a claim online to American Home Shield for an air conditioner unit. Their rep called and told me who was coming out and then once the person was headed my way, they gave me a tracking thing where you can see where they’re at and how long it’s going to be before they get there. I had two contractors that were very good and I had one that I just didn’t care for at all. The one that worked on my hot water heater was excellent. And the actual technician that worked on my air conditioner was excellent, but the businessman was terrible. He was out of Gulf Port. He was not very accommodating when it comes to scheduling. And they had to make four or five different visits to get the air conditioner completed. So it was extremely inconvenient.

Every time that I would call and try to set up a time frame, he'd tell me that he would set it up and that I would need to be available whenever the schedule was available. I asked for them to come out one more time to check the Freon in the air conditioner. It was a different company, Summer All, and the issue on that one is I filed the claim on a Thursday and I got a call back from the Summer All people the next Monday. I had already told one of the other folks to come in and do the business, and I canceled that with AHS for them to come out.

The technician that’s come out has been excellent. But dealing with the folks on the other end was not a pleasant experience. I have patients in the clinic and I can’t just drop what I’m doing and go and spend an hour. The guy was going to be here by four o’clock and the first guy got there at eight in the evening. I called and I filed a complaint with American Home Shield about it. The quality of work by the contractors was excellent. It’s been really, really good. My water heater was replaced and they were able to repair my air conditioner. They had to rework the whole thing. I’d recommend AHS to my friend if they got a house that’s five years old.

Our dishwasher broke in October and it started showing a bunch of different lights when you'd push the normal button. A couple of times, it would run and then it stopped running altogether. So we made the claim and then the repairman came. A week later, he came back after he got the part and tried again. It ran that first time but then the lights did the same thing, making him come back with another part again. He requested for the control panel the first time and then the touch panel the second time.

It was silly and I finally said we should stop putting money into the dishwasher. I recommended American Home Shield to replace it so that's what we're doing. They sent us a link and told us to pick a dishwasher but there was no explanation. The website said what to do if we didn't like any of the ones there but we still don't know timelines of when to expect the reimbursement. The website also gave the directions of what to do to send our receipt, which I've done but now, it's been a black hole. I don't know where the claim stands now and we realized after we purchased the dishwasher that the installation wasn't included. I tried calling one day and it was an hour's wait on hold so it's all been through email and it's been completely crazy to try and make this happen just through email. It would have been good to know what was going to happen with the process and to connect with somebody a little bit more about it.

My AC unit was intermittently turning off where it would not run at all. The thermostat would turn off and the whole unit would shut down and turn randomly back again. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was easy, but the only thing that was a bit confusing was that it didn't allow me to tell what my issue was. I expected to explain and for me to put it in the comments.

On the other hand, the technician was very professional. I asked him to call me because they gave me a four-hour window to be available, but I told him that I work 10 minutes down the road and I could beat him if he could give a 15-minute heads-up. He did and that was great. He also told me that it was the condenser ice and he flushed it. Though the policy is expensive and I didn't use it enough to justify having it, American Home Shield is worthwhile on a new home. That way, you have some coverage in case something happens right away.

We inherited AHS when we purchased our house. We’ve had to use the service twice, which had been fine. However, when I call, I cannot get someone on the phone. I am told that my wait time will be in excess of 1-minute. Then after a few minutes, it says my wait time is going to be over an hour. Back in the summer, I called them to change the spelling of my husband's name as it was spelled wrong. I didn't have to wait long that time, but other times, I haven’t been successful in getting them on the phone. One time, I sat with the phone on speaker for 48 minutes and I ended up having to hang up because I just didn’t have any more time to wait. I made my request over the phone using their teleprompt feature and it ended up being okay.

But I had the plumber come out for one call and I had to call them again for the same issue. I was concerned that I was gonna get charged the service fee a second time but I didn't. I would have preferred to speak with a customer service representative to confirm that that was gonna be the case, but I didn’t get that opportunity. I just crossed my fingers and hoped that it will all work out okay. We've had an appliance guy come over, then we also had the plumber come. They contacted me right away and those went great.

Our policy is up in February and I'm looking into other companies. We’ve had BGE Home in the past and when I call, I get somebody on the phone within a few minutes. Also, once you pay for the policy, all the maintenance, all the service calls are included. With AHS, you have to pay a $79 fee every time you call. I understand that it's being used to staff service people but it would be nice if that was not there.

They sent someone who was friendly, professional and didn't steal anything. He gave the unit a new motherboard since it's one of those washing machines that ran on its own. The unit would always work when the repair person comes but when I load the clothes in, it would show the same problem again. After three repair tries yielded the same results, I got a replacement unit.

AHS emailed me last Wednesday to tell me who was going to replace my unit and that they will get in touch with me. However, the said company only contacted me this afternoon to tell me that they'll be here in 15 minutes. I wish I had more information. But the people who delivered it were professional and had the old one out and the new one in within half an hour. It was the first major appliance that AHS covered but every time I call them, they were always right there on time and they always sent somebody out who knew what they were doing.

They were very good and only took about 30 minutes to do it. The garbage disposal has worked fine since. My experience with AHS was very positive and they are certainly much more responsive than my previous home warranty in Arizona. We got our first year of AHS coverage along with the house when we bought it in May 2016. Several months after we moved in, I called them and pre-purchased year two coverage. We noticed that the dishwasher didn’t seem to be cleaning that well. We tried different settings and it was leaving spots or residue. We realized that we should have someone look at it. I submitted the claim online to AHS and the vendor called and set up the time. The contractor who came was great. But, there was a time when we had a major issue with the air conditioner unit. The contractor made us feel that we needed another opinion on it. They seemed like they were trying to sell us a unit that was going to be out of date very quickly because of the changes of Freon that were coming. We were concerned and we didn’t want to spend a boatload if we didn’t have to. But we also didn’t want to have the unit that would be very difficult to get Freon a year from now. Also, we couldn’t tell if we really needed the furnace part or not which didn’t seem like we initially had to.

So, we went to a company that I used at a previous residence and they were overselling and trying to sell us a unit that was way too big for the house. Then, we found a third party who we went to. I didn’t like being stuck with one vendor that I didn’t feel was the best for the job when all I could get to cover the issue was just a couple of hundred dollars towards a several-thousand-dollar job. If I’m in a situation with a very expensive job like that, I don’t want to have just one vendor. It’s not right or fair. AHS should have an arsenal of levels from mom and pop to some big corporate type and options in between and a referral list from other people, not just “Well, here’s the person that’s got the contract with us”.

One other negative thing about AHS was when I had to be on hold for 30 minutes. This happened to me twice when I was trying to get some feedback about the AC. And the reps complained that they didn’t have enough staff. I told them that that shouldn’t be our problem and they need to hire more people at their call center. I remembered that their website was simple and making the initial claim was easy, but trying to reach them on the phone was very difficult. But AHS is fine to have as part of buying a new house and their actual dynamics of dealing with customer is fine. The last call I got from American Home Shield was when they were checking on me since the deadline for renewal is closing. They were very persistent but they weren’t overly pressuring about that. I appreciated that they were friendly when I finally decided not to renew. They didn’t try to push my arm.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator and our air condition because neither one was cooling and submitting the claim was very difficult The time you have to wait on the telephone is ridiculous. It took an hour or some an hour and 30 minutes. I had a client who said she also has an account with AHS and the time on the phone was so long she just hung up. It was difficult to solve the problem and getting somebody to come out here. They forward us the name of the people who see these appliances.

I asked them to take Stephen's Appliance off of my list as a provider because they did an awful service. We filed two recalls with them and they did not follow up and their attitude is bad. They were supposed to come back and look at the refrigerator and the guy claimed he didn’t get the first email. He claimed he got the second email and then when I called he replied to me when I asked him when was he coming. I said, "because they told me that I reach out to you. You're supposed to come right back out." He told me that he was not coming right back out. He told me that he couldn’t say when he was coming so I asked him, “Well, can you tell me how our refrigerator can be fixed?” He told me if it's not working to call the claim in and they will replace the condenser on it but if it still will not working after that then he would have to put in a request that they know that my refrigerator can't be fixed.”

I asked him when he was going to do that. I called on Wednesday and he told me that it would probably be Friday. I said, “Well, how is it that it's going to take you until Friday to call it in or send a request?” And then he just said that the refrigerator can't be fixed. I asked why it was taking him so long since I've been without the refrigerator for almost six weeks. I said, “We've been going back and forth.” So he told me, "Well it would be Friday, that’s all I can tell you. I can't tell you anymore. Friday is when I will be calling in." So I asked, “Can you tell me what's wrong with the refrigerator then because if all you need to do is make a phone call or send an email then I don’t see why it would take you until Friday to do that?”

I told him that I was going to call and he replied, “You can call all you want but until they hear from hear for me nothing is going to happen.” And that’s exactly what he told me. Then the old lady called on Stephen's Appliance and solved my problem but trying to get my refrigerator fixed and the time that you sit on the phone and going back and forth is just too difficult.

Fixing the refrigerator started in August and finished in November. American Home Shield sent out All Brands who told me that my floor was not leveled therefore the refrigerator could not be fixed. American Home Shield called me and I told them that was not acceptable. There was nothing with my floor and there are levelizers off the refrigerator inside with the case. They said that was what All Brands found and they can’t fix it. I asked what my options were and the rep said to get a second opinion. If the second opinion was different then I won’t have to pay the additional $75 fee. They sent in the folks from Sears. They were on time and they knew what they were doing. They identified the issue and ordered the parts. They fixed the refrigerator and it works beautifully now. I don’t ever want American Home Shield to send All Brands to us again for anything.

I’m very satisfied with what American Home Shield finally did but I’m not satisfied with the process that it took them to get to it. It was not so much American Home Shield as it was the companies that they used. They sent All Brands out here for a number of things and they were constantly dragging it out. I don’t think that they’re screening their service people enough.

I also got an email that I was seven days past due on my fee and they were not making service available to me until I had paid it. So I called them yesterday and the very nice lady who took care of me took about 10 minutes and she came back and told me that because there was a different opinion or a different diagnosis and it was repaired, I didn’t owe the $75. Then I told her I knew that but they didn't. That was what I was told in the first place. But she was exceptional. I’ve been with American Home Shield for 16 years so they need to get their act together now. It also took about five weeks to get our air conditioner replaced in the heat of summer.

Recently, I've been waiting for an AC unit to be installed but the company that's installing it has been having trouble getting a permit from Groveland city hall. My issue was one of the AC companies diagnosed my problem incorrectly and I had to get a second opinion. AHS took the technician's word saying that something had happened to the drip pan in the AC. The second guy who came out said there was nothing wrong with the drip pan and he didn't know why the company lied and implied that it was the drip pan.

The first company, Total Air, called and told me that for $600 out of my own pocket, they could come and do the drip pan and correct the problem, which was another lie because it wasn't the drip pan. I was shocked with the experience that I went through with the second opinion because that was the first time AHS told me that a technician could make a call like that, saying that it wasn't wear and tear, that it was self-inflicted. I hope AHS drops Total Air because they are not reliable.

Most recently, I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my stovetop; one of the breakers burned up. They replaced it with a new one. In the 20 years that we’ve been with them, Lindsay Plumbing was one of the worst contractors that they’ve sent out. We had a cracked toilet which was over 25 years old. They said it was over-tightened. We never touched the thing and was leaking over time. They wouldn't cover it nor replace it because they said it was a controllable leak that we should've known about. It flooded our bathroom, went through our ceiling and to our piano and ruined it.

Lindsay Plumbing also recently tried to screw my son $12,000. There was a cracked pipe underneath his cement foundation. So I told him to get a different opinion. Another plumber came in and had a better camera and saw that it was just grease in the pipe. It wasn’t a crack. So Lindsay Plumbing is out of our picture. We’ve reached out to American Home Shield about it and they put on there to never refer them to us again.

On the other hand, Kingwood Air Solutions is awesome. They’ve been really good and we always have them come back. I file my claims through the phone and online but if I want a particular service company, I call and talk to somebody. American Home Shield has always been fair with us. A lot of people have different opinions if stuff doesn’t go right, but like any other home warranty, they're a patch company. They're not going to replace stuff with top-of-the-line product. They’ll get it fixed as much as they can until it completely breaks. They take care of some of the problems, but they will replace it if needed. I would recommend them to a friend definitely.

I’m on my second year now with American Home Shield and I’ve used them, three times in the case of the air conditioning and then three times with other appliances. Normally, I call claims in on the phone and hold for a few minutes at the most. The technicians have been very nice, cordial and helpful. Recently, I had technicians come out for the trash compactor. They showed up between the hours they said they were going to be here and resolved the issue in 10 minutes. They even showed me how I might take care of it the next time it happens. American Home Shield is a good way to protect your home and what’s in your home. I have a lot of high-end appliances and AHS doesn't necessarily cover the higher-end products but they come close or they work with me, and they have been professional.

We didn’t figure out that it was the water heater until Thanksgiving Day, so it was a little difficult to try to get somebody out. It took them two days, and then we had hot water on Tuesday. The contractor knew what the problem was within a couple of minutes and was a really good contractor. The water heater is working perfectly.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long period of time and I've got five warranties on five different rentals. In the last three weeks, I've had two houses that had drainage problems. Usually, I would call to submit my claims, but the last few times I was on hold for an hour, so now I do it online. But if I had a question as I did in this last one, I got somebody to answer my call. This last situation, the contractor accused my tenant of pulling on the pipes underneath the sink causing a drainage leak. That doesn’t sound logically correct, but they said that the leakage was not caused by normal wear and tear, so my claim was denied.

I did not get a different contractor because then it would cost me more money. I told my tenant to take the wrench and tighten the bolts underneath the sink, and he did. The leak primarily went away except that there's a tiny drip, and it probably needs a new washer. The contractor inaccurately diagnosed the problem and I'm not paying $75 for somebody to go out there again as I'm tired of dealing with them. In the last year, American Home Shield’s service has gone down rapidly where I am almost ready to go find a new warranty company. They’ve cut down on the people that they have working on answering the phone and the contractors that they're hiring are not very good.

My washing machine started smoking the day before Thanksgiving. I called American Home Shield on a Wednesday. Monday morning, I called back. They said somebody would be out Wednesday and he did. He ran two cycles through. On the third cycle it smoked. He then said it was the bearings on the washing machine. It was more expensive to fix the bearings than to replace the washing machine.

I called American Home Shield the next day. They said they hadn't gotten the smart report from the contractor who came out. Yesterday, I spent 48 minutes on hold again. AHS called the contractor and I was on hold another 12 minutes. They said the contractor and his boss were trying to decide what to do. I asked what happened to the 24 to 48-hour rule. They said they didn't have answer yet.

Here I am today, three weeks later, without a washing machine with my 92-year-old father who has Alzheimer's. I need my washing machine. I can't leave the house to go to my sister's to do laundry all the time. I'm not a very happy camper right now. Smoke out of your washing machine is very scary to me. I keep recommending people to American Home Shield, and this is what I get in the end. I'm a retired retailer. I know all about Thanksgiving weekend. But three weeks down the road and they're still talking about it. American Home Shield is not living up to their contract. I'm very disappointed because I'm still paying $65 a month. I'm a patient person, but this is too long.

When I came back from a trip on a Saturday, I turned the heat on but it didn’t come on. So I called American Home Shield and then they told me who would be coming. They sent somebody out the following Monday. He came and looked at it and then came back. It was two days before he got back and he said that he had to turn the gas off of it and that I could not use it. From there, it took another two weeks before they started working. When they took a picture within, he told me that there was a crack in it in the side of the unit and that he would have to get permission to replace it. In the picture, my brother-in-law and I couldn’t see the cracks that he was talking about but after they took it out, it was definitely rusted. It took two and a half weeks because they didn’t have a permit in Pantego.

They never called for an inspection after they fixed it. I'm retired from city hall so I know they were supposed to come and inspect it. The following week, I called and told them I wanted the inspector to come. I wanted to make sure that the man I had to pay to get it brought up to code did it right. So he came and he said it’s okay. The following Saturday after that happened, I noticed my hot water heater was leaking and so they sent someone out immediately for that and I appreciated it. And he fixed that part.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for several years and they’ve always been great and that’s why even though my husband’s gone, I continue to stay with them. I just wish that the company that came to fix the heater would have hurried it up because it was cold and I was having to stay at my sister for two and a half weeks.

I used to have ECM and then I switched to American Home Shield. Two weeks ago, we made a request with AHS for my ice-maker. I placed a claim online and then I called. A guy came and fixed the ice-maker. It worked for three days, but when my husband and I went for a vacation, my daughter and neighbor came and saw the ice-maker was leaking from the fridge. The ice-maker was not working and the fridge as well. My husband came home one day before me and placed an order with AHS. I then called back and spoke with a person there. She said that this was a recall and to let the guy come and check on the ice-maker. If it’s something else with the refrigerator, then they would charge for the repair. I asked to cancel the service until he comes and checks the ice-maker first. I called him yesterday and he said that he was coming today to double-check for me.

The worst thing ever to hit American Home Shield is their system when people need to place a call or even online. Yesterday, it took me one hour to chat with somebody online, which was not very good. On their website, it would be great if they have more option. I was on the phone for one hour and at the same time, I was waiting for somebody to chat with me. The chatting system came first but it took 50 minutes and that was terrible. Another time, last year, we placed a call for somebody to come in. However, when that person came, he had no idea what to do with whatever he was called for. AHS should call the right people. Nevertheless, I've experienced other companies and my best one is American Home Shield. I always refer AHS to others.

And then the freezer isn't cold because all the components are frozen. When we first filed the claim, they told us that they were going to send someone from Kingman which is 60 miles away and we happen to know there's a place two miles from here that works with American Home Shield and works on our fridge. We asked if we could get the one that's right here in town since Kingman couldn't even get here for a week. They said that they'd call back and hopefully with the way it’s cycled, they would be able to get the ones that are nearby. We ended up getting the one that was just right close to town and canceled the one in Kingman. They were really good. They had to order a part and come back a week later which they did. They replaced that pan that froze up.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for what I thought was a plumbing issue but when I took pictures and sent it to the tech that was going to come out, he said it was an HVAC issue. So he cancelled that and I submitted it for the heating and air. It was a fan that had burned out. He said, "It’s really a good thing because if that backs down, it causes carbon monoxide because it’s a gas furnace." The fan was attached to the vent where the gas comes through, and it wasn’t pulling the exhaust out and it was causing condensation, which was dripping on my basement floor. And the contractor took care of it.

I’ve had great experiences with contractors. They have been very efficient and reliable. I’ve had three claims so far and I would highly recommend them to anyone. The only issue that I have had is when I have to call American Home Shield and I’m on the phone for over an hour. That happened to me four times. The last few times I’ve corresponded, I’ve gone on the website and it seems to happen much faster and the service is much better that way. So that’s what I’m going to do going forward. Other than that, American Home Shield is great about honoring the claims and they’re very efficient in getting the claim to the contractor. If anyone would need a home warranty place, I’d recommend American Home Shield.

It’s always been good with the reps at American Home Shield. I’ve dealt with them for years and I've been happy with their customer service. The contractor for the air conditioning and heating has been great. The only problem I ever had was this one pool company. The guy was obviously just looking to make more money. He denied the claim for lack of maintenance. He was saying the pressure was too high and it caused the PVC plastic pipes to crack. I told him that was not possible. The PVC pipe had to be able to handle two to three times the rated pressure. If the household pressure is 40 to 80 PSI, it's got to able to handle at least 160. It was running 23. How did 23 PSI crack that pipe?

I explained it to him but he’d already called it in. I told American Home Shield that they could have another company come out and they could look at it. If they would disagree, we could pay in the claims. When the other company came out they said the first company already got all taken apart and they couldn’t go against what the first company said. I had to pay their $65. I was out of $130 and then I got to fix the problem on my own. So that was a big waste of time and extra money. I told American Home Shield never send those guys again and since then they’ve never showed up again.

The system is fine. The only thing is if you have a disagreement where somebody claims there is a lack of means or something like that, you really don’t have much of a leg to stand on. American Home Shield will go with whatever the contractor says and you’re just stuck. The appeal process is kind of poor. Also, lowering the price would be great instead of it going up every year.

I've used American Home Shield a couple of times and the technicians do a super good job. I asked questions when I don’t know something but I tell them that if I get in the way, to tell me to quit. Once, I had a leak on the tank and we noticed the water on a weekend so I called American Home Shield and they responded Monday afternoon. If I had anything to worry about, it was the amount of time it took to notify them, for them to show up and for them to get it fixed. The good news for me was the tank kept being refilled so I kept utilizing everything. Plus, they did a professional job and overall, I'm satisfied.

I feel like my appliance was a little cheaper and was professionally installed. However, I don't know the rules that American Home Shield has with their contractors and I don't know how to make that better and get the best as a consumer. I also don’t know if I want to pay upfront if I make a service call. I've only had to pay the technician that gets here so I don't know at what direction the company is going.

I also didn’t like how they treated me on a previous water heater claim. The guy came out and said, “Oh, did you know you're in 98 psi here? We can't use your warranty. Thank you.” If you don’t have your water below 80 psi, your warranty is void and I never knew that. When my wife and I went to the store, got everything we needed and put it back, we didn’t understand the code and because I didn’t realize that my hot water heater was out of Code Compliance, I was out $390. Everything worked out though. We never had a thing and my hot water heater gave up after eight years which is the average life here in San Antonio, apparently because of the mineral content. It's the code and unfortunately, American Home Shield doesn’t cover that. I've used other warranties and with Home Warranty of America, if you were out of Code Compliance, they would cover that.

The damage that was done to my home through the contractors that American Home Shield sent out was awful. The people that they have contracted with are not professional, and very unskilled. We had to go all the way through the Better Business Bureau. There were a couple of claims on an appliance that I did over the phone. I waited an hour and a half just to get to a person. It had been like that in the last two years.

The contractor who came for the dishwasher destroyed my kitchen cabinet. They sent somebody over that clutched it but the cabinet is still damaged. It has been 4 months now and they keep saying they’re going to fix it. Another was on a water heater call. AHS sent some crooked company over who wanted to charge me $500 for plate fittings that were part of the installation. AHS said the heater wasn't covered. When I asked them to send another contractor, they refused saying that’s the only company they had in the area that has a contract with AHS. They told me that I had to go with the contractor or do a cashout.

So, I had to pay a contractor out of my own pocket which is about $1,000 even though I was with AHS. They only paid me $470 for a new water heater and installation because that’s what they feel the cost was. I called several companies to get a quote and it was between $1,000 and $1,500 and I took the cheaper one. I don't recommend anybody to get them. They're not very helpful.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the plumbing. The garbage disposal leaked and I did the claim online. Someone’s company was contacted and they did an excellent job. The contractor came in and did what he could to fix it but in the end, he decided it was easier to replace because the parts inside were rusty and it would probably start leaking again. So, I appreciate their honesty on that.

I have submitted the last couple of claims online because of the wait time. It's entirely too long on the phone. But I’ve had good interactions with their reps and they're usually helpful. About a year ago, I had a plumbing stoppage issue and they sent it out to a company. I didn't hear back from the contractor and when I finally heard back from them, they gave me about a five-days out. I called American Home Shield and let them know that although the sewage went backing up into the house, it was backing up into the side of my house, which I share a wall with my neighbor. The rep understood that and she called the contractor up but didn't have another date so she found me someone that came out the next day. This turned into a sanitation issue at that point. She understood and I appreciated that.

American Home Shield has been good. However, they no longer cover water softeners and though I gave some thought of dropping them because of that, I didn't want to risk losing that good service just for one item. Luckily, I'm new at this point so I could give it some good years out of it. Everything else is all positive. I’ve been using American Home Shield since my house was built. I would tell my friends it's definitely worth it. I know of at least five or six of my friends that are with American Home Shield now.

This is the first home that I've owned and I was impressed with the coverage that American Home Shield provides. A couple of years back, a rod went down in my cooling system and it didn’t cost me one-third of what it would have cost if I didn’t have the warranty. I would recommend American Home Shield and I would tell my friends that I'm glad of their services.

AHS came out for the clogged sink in our master bathroom. It had been going on for a while and then it got worse. They had to come out a second time since it wasn’t fixed, but since then, it’s been fine. It took them seven days to get it fixed completely. If we submit a claim online, it’s super easy. But one of my biggest complaints about the company is that when I try to call, I'm on hold for 30 minutes at least and then end up submitting online. They could have a better customer service. Nevertheless, the people I talk to are usually friendly. There was one contractor that I was very unhappy with and they tried to reschedule me with them again which was one of the reasons I had to call. Other than that, the other contractors had been good.

My most recent claim was for a refrigerator appliance being repaired. American Home Shield sent the person out and they did fine. It's the people they pick to come out and do the actual work that ends up being the problem. I had to recall them back in and they're sending the same person out because it really wasn't fixed. The tech thought that he'd picked up the correct part to fix the refrigerator, but it didn't fix it. We tried to call him directly and left a message for him that it's not fixed, and he hasn't responded. The problem is they get people that are not necessarily in the area. They're way out of the area sometimes so it makes them reluctant to come back. The contractors don't like to travel that far. AHS should pick the most reasonable type of people to work with.

A few years ago, American Home Shield forgot to let me know that my policy was expiring and we went a couple of months without service. But they were able to reinstate me and that was the biggest problem I've had which happened four years ago. I've recommended them and I would say to others to get them. They're really good. I recently filed a claim with them for the refrigerator in my rental property in Florida. I did it online and it was easy. I don’t call them anymore because there's usually quite a long wait. American Home Shield has done well but when the contractors came out, they misdiagnosed the problem on the refrigerator and they didn’t put the right part in. Then they took a long time to come back out and put the right part in so my tenants were frustrated with them all for that. They also told me to ask American Home Shield not to have this company come out anymore.

The electrical company then called and set up an appointment that day. The contractor was a cool guy. He was very professional and easy to work with. He listened to what the problem was, took a few minutes, diagnosed it and seemed to come out okay. The only thing that I would like to suggest is if they could maybe call a few days afterwards to check in on me and see how things are going. They did that a couple of times but if there was an issue then, I had to track down the contractor again. Other than that, I would and have recommended AHS to all of my friends.

That was the first time I’ve had to use the warranty since I’ve been paying it and it was definitely worth having the service and paying the monthly fee as opposed to having to come up with a lot of money for a new water heater.

Also, they worked to make the customer happy because their work was good. I would recommend American Home Shield. We were having some problems with our toilets which were not that old since they were replaced three years ago. They were making this singing noise. So my husband, Allen, ordered all of the Kohler innards parts and American Home Shield dispatched Mouthly Plumbing for the repair. When they got here and started working, Allen was with them. We watched the video on how to do the repair and Allen could tell that the repair wasn’t being done right. At that time, we were having another problem with our garbage disposal. It was leaking so they fixed that. After they left, when the toilets were flushed, we’d still hear this singing noise that lasts a while which obviously meant the repair wasn’t done correctly.

I called AHS back but I couldn't even get through to these people. They always told me that I would be on hold for so many minutes but that was a total lie because I'd be on hold for two hours. Then I noticed that I could do a live chat. It said that an agent would be available to chat with me in two minutes, so I kept the screen up. But someone didn’t come on for 28 minutes to chat with me and when after our conversation, I printed out the entire chat because I was so upset.

I told the agent that the tech was here five days ago and I want them to dispatch another plumber. I also said that I was not paying the $75 co-pay for another plumber. That’s why I have the policy and I pay them a premium every month. But he said that they could not dispatch another plumber and waive my co-pay. He also said they would dispatch the same person but I asked him what made them think that the service contractor they sent was going to fix it when he couldn’t fix it the first time. He then said he couldn’t help me and repeated the same things he said earlier. I was being very diplomatic throughout the whole thing and at the end of my chat I asked to speak with a supervisor/manager about this issue. He wrote back that it would be 28-48 business hours. But I’ve never heard from anybody.

But when they want our money, we’d be able to get in touch with someone really easy. I’ve used AHS since I bought the house around 20 years ago and they take the premium automatically out of my checking account. When my debit card got hacked, they haven’t been able to take my premium and they’re sending me all these emails about it. I also had to wait seven business days to get a new debit card and they're reaching out to me asking if I want to renew the policy.

My sister has AHS, too, and it’s the same people all the time. The contractor has to call American Home Shield to get approval for parts but we already bought the parts from Kohler so American Home Shield didn’t even have to pay for the parts to fix my toilets. The guy just didn’t know how to do it and American Home Shield doesn’t seem to be interested at all. Also, I know plenty of realtors who would be the first one to say that they would never recommend American Home Shield because they’re not worth the paper the policy is printed on. They always find some reasons not to pay for stuff and I’m seriously thinking about just letting it go. If I treated my customers the way they treat theirs, I would have no customers.

We have been with AHS for several years. Three weeks ago our hot water heater was not providing hot water. We contacted AHS for service and they sent a plumber out to assess the problem and repair it. A day after the hot water heater was repaired, we again had no hot water. To make a long story short, AHS sent the plumbers out 4 separate times to repair the problem, twice in one day. Still no hot water. AHS then suggested it may be an electrical issue. An electrician was sent to our home and the electrician confirmed there were no electrical issues.

We have been without hot water for 3 weeks and counting and trying to get a customer service rep on the phone is at best an hour wait. We have family coming for the holidays and not having hot water is an embarrassment and a huge inconvenience. If the plumber cannot repair the heater, it should be replaced, but that seems like the last thing AHS is willing to do. We are still trying to get this issue resolved with AHS but it has been a battle. We hope AHS does the right thing and replace the hot water heater so that our family can enjoy the holidays.

They were polite, friendly and very nice. The guy knew what they were doing and the entire installation process was almost seamless. However, it took them about a day and a half by the time they got the fitting done. They had to order the hot water heater then get approval from AHS and took a couple of days to get all that done. AHS charged us $75 just to get somebody out and $280 for replacing the hot water heater and it’s too expensive.

I didn't get anything in writing about the breakdown of how much was the labor, the cost of the hot water heater and why I'm paying the contractor another $280 that AHS won't cover. I have to pay $400 to $600 a year for the insurance and then it ended up costing me more than the benefit I can get out of the warranty. I would never ever renew my contract with them.

We had someone come out to work on the plumbing. He did a great job but the day after he left, I noticed that our water heater wasn’t producing hot water the same rate it had the day before he worked nearby. He had turned off the main water. So he came back out and found there was a lot of sediments in the filter and it was a result of his work. If there wasn’t enough water getting in, the tank’s heater could have burned out and would've led to bigger problems. They took care of the problem and it was nice that it didn’t cost anything.

The only negative about my experience was I was on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes on hold before someone ever picked up the phone and spoke with me. And it was the third day because I tried two other times when I spent about half an hour each day before, hoping to get a hold of someone but I just couldn’t. I had to get through because the only way to get the same company to come back out to deal with the problem that I didn’t want to have to pay another $75 for was to actually wait to speak to someone. If I had done it through the website, I wasn’t guaranteed to get the same company.

I’ve had plumbers come out a couple of years ago when we had a clog. A couple days later, the clog was there again. The plumbers gave us a 60-day warranty on the work so I called them directly. The owner said they won't get paid if they just come back out. So I had to go back and call American Home Shield. My hands were tied because the owner of the company would not send his technicians back out. Whoever I spoke with from AHS was very supportive and said, “If I were in the same position, I would not want to pay for another $75 to fix the problem that didn’t exist the day before he got there.”

We were making a list at one point of the companies that we didn’t want to work with anymore. Maybe it’s just this area of Los Angeles but some contractors work for a specific company so they’re not in-house. A lot of times it's hard to understand the accent, whether it’s Russian or Eastern European. They are very good at working with machines but not great at working with people. I’ve been online and have looked up other competitors of AHS. It seems like everybody’s got their negatives. So it's almost better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

My slide-in range wasn't dependable. Sometimes I would turn it on and it would work and sometimes I would turn it off and it would go off and tell me that there was an error and F3 or F2 would flash on. I called American Home Shield and it was very difficult to get a hold of them, which was a bit frustrating. When I first got on and made the claim, that wasn't so long, but sometimes I've waited for an hour. They told me they would replace it with one similar to my stove, a slide-in GE stove, so I looked in three different stores here in Greenville trying to see what that stove looked like, but none of the stores carried it. All I could do was get a picture of it and the measurements. I checked my measurements on my stove and on the printout that I got on the one that they would replace it with, and they were the same. I called them back and told them that I would accept that.

When the stove came, it wasn’t even delivered by an installation place for stoves but by two men on a truck. They were going to slide it in and hook it up but it wouldn’t fit, so I called American Home Shield and they said it was a modification problem and that was my problem. About a fourth of an inch on either side of my Frigidaire went on top of the quartz countertop while the GE slid in beside the quartz, so I had to pay $300 to get my quartz countertop cut down to fit the GE that they sent me. If I send it back, it was $200 or $300 restocking fee and I still didn’t have a range. After I got the quartz cut down, it was a terrible mess, and they vacuumed it as they went but it was a two-day clean-up. Then, the plug on the new stove stuck out so far that the stove still would not go back in. I had to have an electrician come and move the box from the side down behind. It was unbelievable.

I’m not really pleased with American Home Shield at this point. It seems to me that sometimes, they’re a bit hard, and I just got my new bill telling me that my payment for next year, if I want to keep them, has gone up again. I'm thinking, "Is it really worth it or not?" They did give me a new range but it really would have been nice to send somebody to install the range that knew more about what they were doing than just bring them in and plunk it down and say, “Oops!”

I have had so much trouble with the air conditioner as well. They sent out people to take care of it and I got it repaired, but the last two repairs have been pretty expensive. They have sent a different company every time so there is no consistency in getting anything taken care of. I have other friends who say the same thing about American Home Shield. I finally refused one company to have them come again because I did not really feel safe with their coming but I had to pay another $75 service fee. We have had good experiences with American Home Shield as well, but when you’re not dealing with the same person or the same unit, it’s very difficult.

American Home Shield needs to know how they can serve because we pay a hefty fee every year and some years we don’t use anything at all, so they’re making money off of us. We have had them on a home that we had in Greenville back in 1969 until we sold it in 87. When we came back to Greenville and owned a home, we registered with them again so we’ve had with them since 2002 or 2003 in this house. Also, they don’t have enough people to answer the phone.

When I finally got a hold of agents, they were very kind and very willing to take time and listen to me, which may be the problem why they have such a volume of calls. Maybe they’re just so kind at listening to your request and trying to get information to make a good decision on what you’re doing because you’re never seeing anything and you’re going just by what they tell you. But if they could make it so you didn’t have to sit with your cellphone for an hour and wait for them to answer, it would be great.

I always call in to submit claims since speaking to someone makes me feel it’s getting me handled. I would call first thing in the morning otherwise, there would be a really long wait time. If the wait time was more than 15 minutes, I would call back. We have a rep from AHS that comes in periodically. The contractors were super, and they fixed the leaks and tightened a port that was loose. And we were not just looking for fixing those, but we were also looking for little things that they might be coming back for. They were very thorough, cordial and professional.

AHS is a nice security blanket. When you use the warranty, you’ll tend to renew it. I enjoyed having it in my own house. It’s a little bit of an expense up front, but it’s worth the insurance. I just renewed them last month and I will renew again next year. I had recommended them to my clients, too. I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years. We were in a financial difficulty and in anticipation of things going out of whack in our household we did some exploring. I have heard good reports about American Home Shield from a lot of different vendors and decided I would go with them. They are awesome and very consumer-oriented. They take care of their clients. They always go over backwards and pay attention to their clients. I file my claims over the phone and they get to me in a reasonable amount of time. When I've had to talk to them, it was during the firestorm or during hurricanes in Texas. They were overwhelmed and that they even got to me was amazing. Plus, their techs have been good. Though a while back, the air conditioner guy they sent out was not as knowledgeable, but the claim was rectified quickly.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for over 20 years now and they are good. I’m happy with them. Whatever your contract is, they live up to it.

Everything worked out great and we are glad to have AHS warranty in our house.

Our furnace was blowing cold air so my wife called American Home Shield to put up a claim. That was a Thursday and it was starting to get cold up here in Minnesota. Someone got our claim, but they couldn’t service our area in Saint Paul. So, we were on the phone quite a lot on Friday trying to figure out what we can do and each time I was on hold for over an hour. It was a little ridiculous that I had to be on the phone for that long. Eventually, someone came out on Monday and it took him less than an hour to fix the furnace. He did a good job but won't be continuing with AHS next year. Most of our appliances are new, so I don’t think that we'd need it.

A faucet in our shower goes hot so we put the claim with American Home Shield for repair. I did it online and it was easy. I had to call the first time that the person came. He replaced the faucet but I think it was not totally repaired. It was still dripping because the faucet does not completely close. So we called in for a second one and at that time he asked me to wait for over two weeks to see if he could bring us stuff by himself but he did not. That’s why we called once more and that was when he fixed it. He replaced whatever was initially put and he fixed the problem for us. I've been an American Home Shield customer for about more than 10 years now and I know for older homes it is only somewhat good because they don’t cover everything. If something breaks it's okay but if it's for replacement it is not that great.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield that had to do with an appliance and it wasn't difficult. We had to call and we spoke with a representative who was very professional. But they could improve on checking the quality of the contractors that they send out. The guy came in and kept on looking at the appliance, going back to his car and looking on his computer then coming back in. First he said that the machine was working with a problem then he was going back to order this gigantic part. I called the company a week later asking if they had ordered the part and when they thought the part was going to get there. But the lady said the case was closed because the contractor couldn't find nothing wrong with the machine.

I wasted almost two weeks waiting for a part that was never ordered. These warranty companies probably take bids from these contractors and that contractor probably gave them a bid they couldn't refuse. But they need to work with people who know what they're doing rather than someone who's going to charge them the least amount of money.

We had to call AHS back and get a second contractor out. We also alerted them that the first guy has 20 Yelp reviews and they were all bad. AHS was very helpful and they agreed to send a second guy out. The new company called me the same day and told me they were going to send the guy the next day. I got a call before he came and they gave me an estimate of the time he was coming. He came in, knew about the machine and was right on it. He figured out what the problem was and got it fixed. There was no part ordering needed and he was wonderful.

And he wasn’t able to fix the dishwasher because it was outdated, but he gave me the option as to what would happen and how to get my dishwasher back from the claim. But I still haven't heard anything from American Home Shield as far as the payback. Before that, they used to give me money ahead of time to get the part, which I think was easier. Once they set up that appointment, they show up typically on time. If they're running 30 minutes late, they give us a heads up or so. They come and get to do the work. Once the work is all done, they let us know. They show my husband what the issue is before leaving so we know what's wrong. The washer is working better than it worked before, which is great. The process with American Home Shield is fast and painless. I don't think much about the money coming out because I know that if something happens, it will be taken care of right away.

I had a problem with a heater in the garage. A guy came out and he said that it was a space heater. When I called back to ask what the prognosis was, they said they weren’t going to do anything because it was a space heater. I told them it’s built-in to the wall. When the second guy came, he said it needed a thermocoupling. He took care of it and it’s been working fine. However, American Home Shield tried to charge me again. When I called, they said it was going to be cleared up, but I got an email saying that I’m still behind in the payment.

When I had an incident with my oven, it was cleared at once. Somebody came out and they made what was wrong clear. I’ve called on the refrigerator, the washer, the dryer, the air conditioner, and the furnace. Some of the stuff was minor. Most of the times, when the guys come out, they’d say, “Somebody will get in contact with you within a day or two.” So on the third day, if I haven’t heard anything, I go online and then it’s like, “The job is complete.”

The guy who came about the oven came with somebody else and he didn’t look like he knew what he was doing. He told me that if it was the hands that were broken, they couldn’t repair it. He took the door off and for almost three months, I didn’t have an oven. Since he took the door off, I didn't mess with anything because then, somebody could come in and say, “Well, you messed it up by doing this.” It was our anniversary and my wife was upset that we didn't have an oven. American Home Shield should have their own inspectors, but nevertheless, I'm mostly satisfied. I had issues but they were resolved and I just renewed their services last month. The guys are nice, too.

I've been an American Home Shield customer for 10 years now. It came as the home warranty for our first house for two years and then we picked it up for another few years. We bought another house and I had it consistently for the last five years. Our cooling stopped working recently so we filed a claim with AHS through the website via my mobile phone and entered the information that they asked for. Most recently, when you file a claim, they allow you to pay right then. So, I don't have to write a check or give my card to the contractor that comes up to the house and that was a good change.

A guy then came out and we troubleshoot it. We replaced the compressor starter, the charge starter, and it was fixed. He took some measurements and see if the temperature drops. He checked it and made sure it was cooling. My issues are always on heat and air so I’ve had the most contact with Myers and they've always been on time. When they are running late, they'd call me at least an hour ahead of time saying that they won't make the appointment. They’d give me a new time and keep me in the loop. And when they're there, they're clean if they're working inside the house. They make sure that their shoes are clean and they put the little walk things on. I really appreciate that especially when they're coming in and out of the house, checking the side and going upstairs, checking the thermostat. They're mindful of everyone's property.

But they had a situation where they didn't have a part or they had to come back another day. On the last 10 years with them, they had a situation where they didn't fix a problem or what they thought was fixed and I have to call them back out. But they’re usually prompt and they find the issue. I've recommended AHS to my mother as well as my aunt.

The garbage disposal would not turn on and because of my work, I kept forgetting to file a claim. When my father came home and complained about it, I finally filed the claim with AHS online. I've had the service for about a year and now it's getting a bit easier when I need to go in and file a claim. I like the option where I can pay the deductible up front. I used to pay at the time of service. And for one claim, I had to pay at the time of filing. With the latest time, I had a choice of whether to pay it at the time of filing or at the time of service. One time, though, I was frustrated because I was on hold for nearly an hour to talk to somebody and could not get through to ask a question. After that, I try to avoid calling them because of the long wait times.

The contractor who came out most recently was really great. I was impressed that when they came, they did a more thorough inspection and realized that even though they got it to work, it was leaking. So, once they traced it, they replaced the garbage disposal. They realized that there were some other issues that were outside the scope of the warranty or what they do. They educated me that the sink wasn't properly mounted and it's something that I want to look into having taken care of sooner rather than later. There was a little cranky thing in order to get it started and I didn't have that and they gave me an extra that they had that would fit. Their service was the best of any of the contractors that I have had out from AHS.

I'm satisfied at the moment but I would not recommend them to somebody else at this point, though, because I was getting really dissatisfied with the service level especially with the customer service wait times. And when I finally got through one time on a question for clarification, the rep was dismissive of me on answering questions. Also, before, their contractors were just coming out and doing the bare minimum in order to move on instead of making sure that everything was resolved so that it would not be a problem again.

Don't make the mistake of purchasing a home warranty with AHS. To start, you are on hold for 1-2 HOURS each and every time you have to call them about a claim. Then they never have any answers and have to ask someone else while you wait on hold AGAIN. This last time our phone call was "disconnected" but I would be willing to bet we were hung up on because we requested to speak with a supervisor. They constantly say things to appease you but never follow through with it. For example: I'm going to forward your claim to dispatch and they will get a hold of you in 48 hours.

THEY NEVER CALL BACK. But none of this is the worst of it. We put in a claim OVER A MONTH AGO because our refrigerator went out. And we are still waiting for it to get fixed. WE HAVEN'T HAD A WORKING FRIDGE IN OVER A MONTH. At this point our refrigerator is supposed to be fixed on Dec. 15th. I imagine it's going to be pushed out past that date AGAIN and AHS will do nothing for us AGAIN and tell us we need to wait longer. Update: fridge is still not fixed and AHS is doing nothing. They tell us to wait. Imagine that. So now we're expected to wait another 15 days. This is outrageous.

I have had American Home Shield most of the time since the 1980's and have always been satisfied until now. Maybe this company has gone downhill. My natural gas furnace quit and I called AHS who sent a contractor to fix it. The contractor said I needed a new furnace. Checking online for a Goodman GDS808004BN the list price is $650 plus installation. Supposedly, AHS paid for the furnace, disposal of old, and installation, but not the modifications required since the furnace was physically a different size versus the old furnace (2002 model and different brand). I expected AHS to cover the cost of replacement including any modifications required due to different size furnace unit, but I ended up paying $1850 so what was the point in having AHS. I paid them nearly $600 a year for the warranty for years. They should have paid for the furnace and installation minus my $100 deductible.

Instead I paid $1750 over the deductible. Seems like I maybe could have found my own contractor for that price. Supposedly the $1750 was to bring the new furnace up to code, but looking at the individual costs, they were mostly sheet metal due to the different size furnace, these would have to be replaced as part of the installation so why did AHS not cover those costs? The old furnace was a 2002 Litton and the city standard is the 2009 building code. The new furnace is only 80% efficient but the top of the line Goodman is 97% efficient. Total labor time for actual replacement was 2 and a half hours. I am not happy with American Home Shield. The air conditioner below the furnace and the filters and vents above were untouched except for the joints between them. By the way, it was nearly 2 weeks without heat in December.

In August American Home Shield (AHS) inform me to chose a refrigerator which AHS provided as replacement for the old one. The only brand for me was GE which was too deep for my kitchen space. Since AHS did not offer me any other option I had to pick up one. When GE delivery truck came to my house. The movers measured the kitchen door, and told us that the kitchen door was too narrow for the fridge to go through by 1/2 inch. They did not move the fridge down to the ground or into the house, took the fridge and left. In Sept. AHS staff told me to order a fridge on my own, price not exceeding $854.8. The staff also told me that if the movers moved the GE fridge into my house but could not fit into space, then took it away.

GE could charge me restock fees $251.5. But if they did not move the fridge down, the restock fees should be $98. Without fridge for 2 month in summer, in Oct. we bought a fridge for $711.74. But in Dec. AHS only gave me a check $460.24, (711.74-251.5=460.24). This is a rip off. Why AHS did not offer me to buy my own fridge at the beginning with? Force me to pick up a GE fridge. The GE movers even did not move the fridge down from the truck, still charged me restock fees $251.5. They did not ask my opinion whether to leave the GE fridge for the house or not. They just took it away. AHS gave poor service. No customer should be treated like this. It is a total rip off.

I’ve had American Home Shield for 15 years now, and I’m possibly quitting them. I called them to get the back wall fixed because they came loose. The guy was able to snap everything back in place, but the door frame was cracked above where the handle is. When I told the lady on the phone that I was thinking of quitting since my membership ends this month, she said that she would make sure that everything gets fixed, and she got the guy to come over. He said that the handle is no longer available. So, they would have to replace them. But I’ve been waiting for two weeks and I didn’t hear from anybody. Either the company or AHS should get a hold of me and at least tell me if they would not do it.

We’ve also had other problems like we had on a microwave once. We paid the $75 out and the guy came. But he couldn’t fix it because the model number had worn off on the side of the microwave. We had the book with the box number, as well as the receipt, but the guy ended up taking our $75 and we had to go out and buy a new one because he couldn’t touch it. Other than that, we also had an issue with the dishwasher, and at least, it’s working now. It’s 12 years old, which is good for a dishwasher, so I was not surprised that it didn’t get replaced.

My air conditioning wouldn't come on and I had no idea if it had the wrong fuse in it. The problem was the heat wouldn't come on and the thermostat was wired up wrong. I had just moved in last January and somebody had put the wrong fuse. When I got American Home Shield, I thought it was $125 for a service call. I thought air conditioning and heating go hand-in-hand, but they charged me double service calls and I didn't like that. It's not like I called two people to see my unit. It was just one call, one guy. If the guy had to come back out the next day, then that's another call. Homeowners don't know that. If I had called a regular air conditioning guy, he wouldn't have charged me extra. The contractor that came was great and did a good job, but I'm very dissatisfied with my experience and I won't recommend AHS.

I went to California on a business trip and when I came back my house was flooded. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield's automated system and I didn’t like that their wait times were extremely long. We have to work and nobody has time to be waiting for two hours on the phone. If you get American Home Shield on the phone after two hours and you forgot to ask them on another question, that’s going to be another two hours of wait. They didn’t even have a callback option, which is the worst, and when I spoke to somebody, I was told they were understaffed.

I told them about my house being flooded and that they had to take everything to mitigate. I had to have all these fans in my house to dry up all the water so the toilet had to be removed. But they said I have to put the toilet back on in order for their contractor to come out. But if I was doing mitigation services and I put the toilet back on, then my homeowners would only pay for them to take it off and put it on. So, American Home Shield was trying to incur a cost for me based on a sudden and unexpected incident, and I found that to be really ridiculous.

Then, when I called the contractor company, the lady that I talked to was not very friendly and I felt like the company had an attitude. But the tech that came to my house was awesome. He was very friendly, conversational, and informational in explaining about the toilet and how it works. I had a clogged sink, too, and he fixed that as well. But when I asked him if he could also look at my toilet since he was in my garage, he said that the toilet had to be attached for him to do so. So American Home Shield was horrible. My prior experience with them on my microwave was horrible, too. Even though they got it fixed, their reps couldn’t find the claim in their system because the contractors entered it in incorrectly and that delayed the work even more.

I had several plumbing issues around the house. Individually, it was small, except for when the water heater started leaking. And so I monitored that for a little while. We went out there and saw that there's always a little bit of water at the top. I then noticed an increasing amount of rust on the water heater, which led me to believe it was nearing the end of its useful life and was about to fail.

So I called American Home Shield and asked if I get charged per thing that needs to be repaired. What their representative said was if it's all plumbing matters, then it would be one. So I told him I got several to report and then I filed the claim. Although I had excellent interaction with their customer service, there's been one slight problem in the end.

One issue that we have had is that the original contractor selected to come out wasn't really great. They didn't call within 24 hours they said they were going to call. I gave them 48 and at the end of 48 hours, I called them. Then they set an appointment but then missed the window. I had given them a two-hour window to get here. They told me they would be here in 10 minutes, but an hour and a half later, nobody came. I told them I couldn't keep that day's appointment once they had missed the window.

That precipitated a call from American Home Shield. They asked if I would like them to reschedule or have a new contractor. At that point, I felt it would be more comfortable having a new contractor. So I had a new contractor come out and everything went great. They had to visit me twice though because they still had to order the water heater.

The lingering issue was that I continually got emails from American Home Shield saying I had an outstanding balance of $75 service call fee. I knew that wasn't the case since I had paid the $75 service call fee when I originally made the order. However, after 45 minutes on hold, I finally got to talk to somebody who said that the problem is that $75 had been applied to the first contractor who ended up not doing the work. And that they needed to do something on their end on their reporting. I was also told that it was to come out upon that first contractor to close it out or report that they did not end up completing it, that it was reassigned, and that would free up the $75 to be applied to the second contractor.

The representative said they got it fixed, but then, the next week, I got another email saying I'm past due. So after the second one, I got a little upset and I had my wife spend another hour on a Saturday getting in touch with American Home Shield, who again said it was being resolved. I just wanted the emails to stop saying that I was past due on my bill because that doesn't make anybody very comfortable. And so far I haven't gotten other emails saying I'm past due or anything like that.

I'm sure this error comes up with home warranty companies where there's some dissatisfaction with the first guy. In fact, the other major claim that I had to make with the home warranty, the exact thing happened. We ended up having a guy who was so incompetent. He told us that I had a faulty carbon monoxide detector. Meanwhile, it goes off for the third time. And we called the fire department and they told us to get out of our house because our carbon monoxide detector's going off.

So we had to call a second HVAC guy out and he took one look at the heat exchanger and said that our manifold was totally rusted out and leaking gas furnace exhaust back into our house. The last guy didn't see that. He just said that he would have had to take the whole thing apart after looking at it with a flashlight. So it's probably pretty common that customers request a different contractor than the original one assigned. And the problem that seems to have happened is that American Home Shield wasn't able to unilaterally on their side - solve whatever billing issue they had to pull the $75 service call fee from being applied to the first contractor and make it apply to the second contractor.

It's not that bad but the annoying part was that there was no speedy way to contact American Home Shield's billing department. I had to wait in the same on hold queue as anybody trying to call and make a claim. And you would think that maybe there would be a fast lane for people trying to give them money or straighten that billing issue but there wasn't. Still, it doesn't affect my perception of them, though I feel worst for my wife who had to spend an hour on a Saturday. And there's no way I will consider any other home warranty company other than American Home Shield for my personal home, and I'm saying this as a real estate agent. It's not to say there aren't any other good ones but American Home Shield has done very good so we're very happy with them.

The washer had been worked on several times and the technicians were out three times that last weekend before they finally said there was no way to repair it. So the technician submitted the claim and we got an “okay” from American Home Shield to go ahead and replace it for $604 and some cents. We've already sent the receipt into American Home Shield last week to show that a new washer and a dryer were purchased but I realize that the $605 is the only thing going be allowed.

In the past, I had the appliances done through Sears but when the home was purchased, the realtor spoke highly of American Home Shield. I've been with them for five years now and I just insured another home too. There was one technician who we weren’t very pleased with but we discussed that with one of the representatives in customer service and she got us with another company and they were very nice. As a homeowner, there is peace of mind in knowing that when you have a problem, you pick up the phone and the folks who are providing you a service actually do. That’s what American Home Shield does when you call and it's worth your money to have that peace of mind.

We had a leak from our disposal and it took 10 days before it got fixed because the people that American Home Shield recommended initially didn’t come. They were coming the next day and then they didn’t. The company they used wasn’t exactly really helpful. By and large, the people that they’ve used have been moderate. Their reps are usually helpful but trying to get through them takes 45 minutes to an hour. And that’s a little irritating. So those are a couple of really major items that they need to improve upon. Otherwise, we’re quite happy with American Home Shield. Everything's been working well now. The upstairs air conditioner has been a problem, but at the moment, it’s repaired. However, they've had to replace a total amount of Freon to the tune of $800 and then three months later, the same thing happens and I'd have to repay the same $800 because it’s past the critical period. That’s also irritating.

I had a garbage disposal that was broken and I put in the request online. The guy came out and said that it wouldn’t last long. He was trying to use his dirty tactics and ripped me off by upgrading me to another garbage disposal for a $100 extra. He showed me the Chinese garbage disposal which American Home Shield would pay for. He also told me that my line was backed up and he would charge me $450 to do a Roto-Rooter on the line. I told him that mine's backed up and asked shouldn't it be covered by the call. Then he lowered his price to $350 and I said okay.

And then I got on the phone with someone else who told me not to do it. So I told the guy before he got all the equipment out of his car that I changed my mind and he started trying to convince me that he should do it. He acted like he was really pissed off that I changed my mind and that I was going to be sorry that I didn't do it. He was really manipulative.

I called American Home Shield the next day to put in a complaint about him. They called him and he denied all the allegations. He told them that he just suggested that I do the Roto-Rooter but it wasn't part of what needed to be fixed to fix the garbage disposal which was the opposite of what he had told me. He also denied that he had shown me those cheap Chinese parts and told me that that was the one that he was going to replace it with unless I paid him extra $100. He's completely immoral and preys on people with fear. And to have him associated with American Home Shield just lowers their credibility and integrity.

American Home Shield just dropped the complaint so he's still out there preying on people. They did not take it seriously and seemed to not be concerned about the quality of the people that they sent out. This was not the first time that the people that American Home Shield has sent me that have tried to upgrade me. They use the copay and decide that they won’t walk out unless they make a couple hundred dollars more. The whole experience was a paper mill.

We have two different problems. Our washing machine is leaking and AHS said it has been assigned to somebody. I haven't heard a thing. We had a problem with our radiant floor heater and AHS sent out a regular electrician who said he knew nothing about the heater. AHS said they'd have to get someone out that knows radiant floor heat. I talked to the tech and he said he would definitely tell AHS that we shouldn't have to pay for a second call. However, again, we haven't heard a thing back from them. It has been almost three months. Luckily, the heat still works but at times we don't have any hot water.

The main complaint is sitting on hold for a half hour to an hour. There was a period of time, maybe six months ago, where it was 10 or 15 minutes, but it didn't last. AHS tells you to do it online but this kind of thing can't be explained online. I tried calling at 2 o'clock in the morning but the recording says they're experiencing unusually heavy calls and it will be a minimum of 10 minutes. Then I go to the next step and then it'll come on and it will say wait time is 40 or 60 minutes plus. It would be great if AHS would set up an option that will put a customer in the queue and they'll call back in order.

But once we finally get the service call, the people AHS has sent out have been great. I renewed with AHS for another year because we have had some real issues with almost all the appliances and the techs have been wonderful. We've had a couple who have come out and I've called them directly but they said they don’t work with AHS. I think it's part of the problem that AHS is not making their contractors happy and they're stopping working with them.

The most recent tech came to repair my microwave because it was making a grinding noise. He said it was because the plate wasn’t rotating any longer, so he fixed it. The next day, I tried to use it and I still heard the same grinding noise in it. He told me he was going to order some knobs that go inside that hold the wire rack up inside the microwave, and then once those came in, that he would call me and bring them back out. Before he did that, I called back. I also left a message and told them that it was still making the grinding noise. I didn’t hear back from him, so I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. The young lady said that she was going to have the tech come back out. But I don’t want the same person coming back if I've already left them a message and explained that it was still happening.

American Home Shield needs to screen the company that they use for coming out because a lot of these people are not good quality. This guy came to my home one time to fix my refrigerator. He was probably Middle Eastern, and I know they have a culture where they don’t wear deodorant, but it was a horrible smell in my home when he left. To him, it's probably normal because that’s their culture, but that’s normal to Americans. And because I was asking questions, and everything lined up to the rationale why the smell wasn’t consistent in coming in and out, he said to me that they could do more work, but it's not under warranty.

In addition, he was very courteous and honest which I appreciated. I also liked that even though Dankel, the contractor company, was small and local, they sent messages to keep me informed of everything in that window of time. Though it wasn't in-person, the notification was really nice and I was really happy with it. Dankel was right on, but AHS could’ve been better.

AHS doesn’t have enough staff to handle the phone and there's usually a one-hour wait time or more, although they're coming up with an appointment system similar to Spectrum where a customer can call in and enter their number then AHS will call them back. Getting through to somebody is a problem but the A-TX Express folks who came out to work on the air conditioning were very pleasant and professional. They took their shoes off and put booties on when they came in the house, represented the company well and diagnosed the issue quickly.

The heater was not cycling on and it appeared to be a relay issue. They swapped the circuit board but it took them six days to get the board ordered and then had to schedule a visit back. I was busy when they came back but they said everything was fine and left. But we leave the unit on 24/7 and I noticed the fan was slightly going off of the compressor, and when I switched it from auto to on, the fan wouldn’t come on. At that point, what got me was that AHS sent something saying my service was complete but it wasn’t. I called A-TX Express and left a few messages, then I tried to get through to AHS. Finally, service was rescheduled and A-TX Express came back out. A jumper on the board simply needed to be reconfigured and then everything worked properly.

When they installed the circuit board, they didn’t check it out thoroughly before leaving and although they were very good, the repair took three visits. It was getting cold and our heater was out but it took almost a week and a half to get the heater repaired. The wait times are a problem sometimes but here’s the biggest thing that’s stuck in my craw. Five years ago, our refrigerator had crapped out but we regularly replace things and buy new appliances, and that refrigerator was a GE and a good one.

The claim took a month and five visits, and on the fifth visit, the guy injected some goop into the cooling system that would supposedly seal it because he couldn’t fix it. But that didn’t fix it either and we were going on almost a month with no refrigerator so I asked AHS at what point they were going to give up and simply replace it. Then they sent somebody else out. A GE repairman came out and wondered what that goop was around the nozzle. I explained to him what the previous service tech did and he said the EPA certification was voided. It was a closed cooling system so you can’t introduce a foreign substance into it. So, it was shot and he couldn't do anything with the refrigerator.

AHS came back and said they disagree with his understanding. They were going to send somebody else back out but the guy had just told them the EPA was cancelled, the authorization for that particular cooling system. A week later, the claim went into some review and they escalated it, listened to the telephone conversations and went through a whole bunch of rigmarole. Finally, I got a call from somebody saying they were replacing the refrigerator. Four days later, we had a replacement refrigerator but we had been without a refrigerator for a month and a half.

They were very reluctant to replace it when the evidence was clear. It needed to be replaced and the main reason was because one of the repair techs messed it up and didn’t follow procedure for that particular refrigerator. I’ve been paying like clockwork for 12 years at that point but I almost cancelled the service over that experience alone. I thought they could have handled it better.

Another time, there was something that needed to be repaired and AHS said they were going to do a cash buyout. I went back, looked at the contract and realized that if something serious happens, there’s a maximum payout or a maximum cap on a repair. The only thing that might apply would be the air conditioning. Plus, I also heard that if there’s a plumbing issue, they no longer covered the digging to get to the plumbing. Those are things that stand out competitively. The warranty is certainly not economically beneficial but there are other advantages so I would still recommend it. If you’re persistent, claims work out well for the most part and most of their contractors have been excellent.

In the two years that I've had them, I’ve submitted five or six claims and some of them were regarding the AC problem. It kept not working right, so they had to continue to send somebody out to make it right and eventually they did. The problem was there were no proactive procedures. The AC broke when it was 200 degrees outside, and they put a band-aid on something and waited for it totally to go out when they knew it was going to happen. That was the frustrating part. Also, the wait time is killing me and they should probably hire more people. The reps are very friendly and helpful, but the last two times I've talked to them has been at least a 30-minute wait. They tell you that the high call volume is lengthy and you can call back or you can wait. At least they're not lying to you automated, too.

Sometimes when you're a female and you have somebody coming in your house and you're the only one here, nowadays can be a little bit scary. But every contractor that they sent out has been very nice and has made me feel comfortable. The quality of their work is very good but their hands are tied with that proactive thing. They can tell you that the AC will keep going out but until it totally breaks and kicks the bucket then you know band-aids are band-aids. But the contractors, especially the appliance people, have done an excellent job and they’ve really gone above and beyond helping me out. The AC guy did a great job too. He knew what the problem was, but until he finally witnessed and saw the AC totally being dead, there was not a whole lot he could do about it because he has integrity and he has to say, “Well it's not broke, but I know it's going to be broke. That’s the deal there.”

Since the repair, the dryer has been great as Andrew did a fantastic job. A screw had come off of the little arms inside the tub of the dryer that grabs the wet clothes and toss them around, and that wasn’t related to him at all. I was able to pop the panel and put that screw back in and we were good to go. American Home Shield gives a peace of mind knowing that you’ve got this mortgage payment and the last thing you want to do is to get all these expenses if something goes wrong. They make you feel better about knowing that if something major breaks, it's only going to cost you 100 bucks. On my last conversation with them, I was calling because the yearly due had gone up and I was asking if there is something like an online discount or discounts that they can give to people that have been with them, but there was none.

I would tell friends to go for American Home Shield as first-time buyers get a better deal. I've definitely recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people because they’ve got contractors that you can trust and I like their turnaround time as they call you within 24 hours. Maybe it's a bad experience American Home Shield has had in the past with having contractors that just want to bill them for fixes that don’t really need to be fixed or they're saying the same thing, so I see both sides of it. If it was a horrible experience, I wouldn’t be renewing. And I am renewing even though I'm not happy about having to pay the extra money a month.

Our microwave was shorting out a breaker and it died and I had to make some repairs to it. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield and getting someone out was easy, but then it took three weeks to get it fixed. Also before that, it took six weeks for our refrigerator to get fixed. It's the way AHS operates. Their contractor was great, but they replaced one part and it didn't work so they had to take the whole thing out and take it back to the shop. AHS won't let the contractors order the part. They got to order it themselves and send it to the contractor, which was ridiculous but my microwave finally got fixed. AHS should've let the contractors tell them what was needed and let them get a part locally and it would have been repaired in a couple of days instead of three weeks. But other than that, they covered it.

Usually when submitting a claim we hear from someone pretty quickly depending on how they get out and what they have scheduled. The contractors they've sent have always been good and have fixed the problem.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield the same day the issue has started and their contractor came in and repaired it. I submitted the claim online and it wasn’t difficult at all.Their website is good and it’s easy to navigate. The contractor who came out was very matter-of-fact; got right down to business and took care of what he had to take care of. However, when they come they should come prepared to cover their shoes or take their shoes off. Customers shouldn’t have to deal with explaining or telling them, “You don’t come in to someone’s house and walk to their home with your shoes.”

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for our oven that was not working properly. We had to change the sensor and the board, which was not working properly, again. Now they have been back to normal so everything is fine. The contractors were very good. However, it was a very difficult experience because you have to wait about an hour just to get them. And, we had some AC and heating systems issue with our gas. They asked the company to come twice and nothing has been fixed. The company was first telling us that it was not covered by the insurance and then they just provided us the quotation so we can pay for it. The company never got back to us. Besides that, it’s not always clear about what is covered and what is not. And once you have a claim, you pay for $75 and once the company came to your house, they don’t follow up to make sure everything is all right. So it was not a really good experience.

American Home Shield tried to get out of fixing everything. They do as little as possible and they send out unqualified people. I had that before when they told me I had a bad water pan and it turned out to be nothing of the sort. I've had this repeatedly especially in the house in Michigan that I have it on too. They are one of the worst companies I've ever dealt from a customer service perspective and in getting the job done. They do a very poor job at fixing things and the worst job at diagnosing the problem.

This recent issue was something to do with a water line backup because of tree roots. They sent out so many unqualified people to diagnose things that they should be ashamed themselves. My guy poured literally 21 gallons of water continuously down the drain and it had no leakage whatsoever, yet they claimed it was a pan problem. Then the people that were managing the property wrote a stupid letter that made it look like we were responsible, which we weren't. American Home Shield sent out somebody that didn’t finish the welding job, so there was water leaking behind the wall for a year, which then caused the wall to collapse and create black mold. So, that was lost rent and that was $14,000 in fixing things.

I keep hoping that American Home Shield is going to get better but that doesn’t seem to be happening. They seem to be getting worse. They find a way to deny my claim because that way, the company that they send out gives me their own bid. It's in their best interest to figure out a way to deny my claim because the company that they send out will then offer me a separate bid for that specific problem. They’re interested in denying it so that they can make money off of me by giving me their claim. I would switch but I'd have to wait a month and I don’t know if the other company is any better.

I contacted American Home Shield to replace my furnace after we had another furnace company take a look at it for the fall maintenance. They found that it had a crack in one of the units and it was leaking carbon monoxide. I called it in since it was easier for me to explain what the other furnace company had found and what they were saying I needed to ask for by talking to somebody. The customer service rep was very good. They were very understanding and worked on getting everything taken care of for me.

The contractors were good for getting it installed, but we're still having problems getting a hold of them now. They were supposed to fill out a form for us for the rebate from our gas company, but the guy won't return any of my calls. He did the work and now he's not communicating with us at all. Although, he responded to my wife one day and texted that he just needed to drop the paperwork off for us, it's been two weeks. I've called and I left him a voicemail, but he has not returned it.

It takes a long time to get on the phone with AHS or do the chatting via the instant message on their site. It seems like there's a long queue. It's very quick to just submit a claim but if you need to talk to somebody, it takes 30 minutes or more before somebody gets online with you. Overall, the experience with them was very good. They took care of the issue, reached out and got a contractor sent out immediately. Plus, they are easy to deal with.

I love American Home Shield. They're great. My contract just expired and I'm renewing it right now on one of my houses. They replaced my air conditioning unit last July. When I switched to heat, I couldn’t get it to work. So I went online and had them send someone out. They adjusted the thermostat and replaced it. It was great. I've had the warranty for four years in this house since I moved here and all the contractors have been wonderful and very respectful. They’re always on time, they call ahead and they're very clean, too.

However, I wish that they could have the same contractors come out for similar issues, like the ones who are associated to our house because they probably would have been able to figure out the problem with the thermostat way quicker if they were the same ones that installed the unit. It just makes more sense to me. It doesn’t bother me but I think for them it would make it more timely. They're paying the extra time it takes to figure out what’s wrong. I just pay $75 no matter how many times they come out. But for them, they have to figure out the problem. Even so, I've really enjoyed it. They’re very prompt and the response is quick. I love the online website. I just go online in the morning and tell my problem. I hear back right away. I’m very pleased and definitely thrilled.

American Home Shield had a contractor come out to work on a leaking toilet issue. They completed the job but there was an issue in the way they had made an installation on a piece of equipment and the toilet wasn’t functioning properly, and they came back and adjusted it. This particular company that they sent out the last time was professional and a better quality than what they sent out in the past. The past were people that were called in didn’t have a whole lot of experience or knowledge.

However, I have had very limited need to use the contract and I’m considering canceling it because I have not utilized or had the need to utilize their services. Financially, it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. I’m paying $75 to have a serviceman come out to look at something. Invariably, if I called an independent person, that would perhaps be $85 to come out and perform the job. I’m paying that in addition to the cost of my policy. But that’s what insurance is for.

Our AC wasn’t producing cold air and I called for service and a guy came out and told me I was going to need eight pounds of 22 and this stuff is about 80 bucks a pound. He said that it has to be a leak somewhere and instead he could put the eight pounds in. It was a lot so I called American Home Shield for a claim. They sent an HVAC guy who was a really knowledgeable tech. I went to the roof with him and he was really sharp. He tested the system. He put in some leak stuff to run through the system and when he replaced the coolant, it was considerably less than what the other individual had stated. And I didn’t have any problems with the rest of this season. I had air conditioning and I didn’t sweat.

The HVAC guy has excellent customer service. I referred his company to my daughter just for fall clean-up and stuff and I will probably use him in the future. I’ve never lived in a condo which is totally electric, and when I bought it, I was originally told that the unit on the roof was a heat pump. Also, when I had nest thermostats installed, the person who sold and installed the nest told me I had a heat pump and that he had to program the nest with different stages for cooling. And so I’ve had four people tell me that it is a heat pump and the HVAC guy said it is an air conditioner and not a heat pump. He was really thorough. And he was definitely worth the 75 bucks copay. He even called me back two weeks later to ask me how we’re going. He’s a person who’s proud of what he does and it shows and evidently, has a good working relationship with insurers.

I’m very pleased with American Home Shield's response time. And I wasn’t looking for a replacement of the air conditioner. I wanted a conditioned air and that’s what they did. With the way I was treated on my claim, I would certainly recommend and would continue the policy. My father-in-law is the realtor that sold me the house and the policy. And then I renewed and then I will continue to renew it.

There's a faucet upstairs that runs really slow and the guy said that it's the acceptable range, but it's not. If I call back now, it's another $75. Also, AHS is going to raise my rate from $60 to $100 and that's not acceptable to me. I have no choice but to find another company because that makes no sense.

The washers that connected the toilet to the tank were completely rotten. So, I submitted my claim by phone, and their reps have all been good. They sent a plumber to change the washers and it only took a couple of minutes, but I paid $75 for that. My neighbor could have done it for less than that. Other than that, the service was fine, and Their contractors were good. They came and did the job. Nothing more, nothing less.
