The heat in the house wasn’t working and I called AHS on the phone. They sent someone out. I was at home and the contractor was really helpful and knowledgeable. It has been working acceptably since then. It was a good experience and I would recommend them.

The water cannot get out of my AC and American Home Shield fixed it for me. Submitting my claim online was quick and easy. They checked everything, especially the control panel and the thermometer. They found that the the pump was dead so they purchased a replacement pump for me on the same day. The AC is now working well and has the heater in every room. Working with AHS was a really good experience.

We like American Home Shield’s folks. They have been out before a lot. Then, when our microwave was not working, we filed a claim online and AHS sent out somebody promptly. I told my friends about them and a neighbor asked us about our home warranty service and we told them the facts of what we have experienced which were not all positive. But, we still need AHS service.

We're really happy with American Home Shield. We've had them for several years and they've done a lot of things for us. And we've always had good luck with the people that they've sent out to us. They've always been very nice and very courteous that we can’t complain. Our recent claim was for the thermostat which was not working right. I had to call a couple of times when I was submitting the claim before I could get anybody to answer the phone. But I know how busy they were that time of the year and I held on for almost an hour before I gave up. We finally got somebody to be sent out and he came out the day that we called. He checked and sorted the issue out. When he got through the last part, he told us that we needed a new thermostat. I asked him if he could do it so he got one and put it on for us. He even gave us a different kind that we can change whether it’s cold or hot.
It was a good thing that something happened as we couldn’t figure out the old thermostat that we had. The contractor was great and he was just a young man but he knew what he was doing. He went straight to it when I showed where the thermostat was. He worked on it the whole time he was here. The only time he went out was when he went to get the new thermostat. He was very polite and professional, and he also asked me if I had any questions. We like to have people who are nice to us and I thanked him a lot for the way that he treated us, too. AHS has saved us a lot of money. By using them, it didn't cost us as much as it would have if we just picked someone out of the telephone directory and had them come. I'd tell my friends to get them.

I had an issue with my water heater and when I called AHS on the phone, I set it up and got a text back. If it’s a plumber or electrician, they will usually call me within 24 hours. They then sent a plumber out, and it was a good experience. Sometimes I work from 6:00 to 2:00. So, when contractors want to come, I tell them I leave home at 5:00 in the morning and I don’t get home until after 2:30. Sometimes they work with me and sometimes I have to take off from work.

I was selling the home and the inspector said that something was wrong with the heater as it was leaking. Filing a claim for it online with American Home Shield was easy and someone called me that same day to set up an appointment. It was a really fast process. The contractor that they sent was really nice and got there on time. It was determined that there was nothing wrong with the heater and the contractor did a thorough job of explaining it to me. What the inspector was saying was wrong. AHS did a good job and if you are a homeowner, give this company a chance.

American Home Shield came with the house when we purchased it. We also had an HVAC and a humidifier in one that came with the house, and that was always being worked on and was always covered. However, when something big went out on it, AHS did not cover it. They said they should never have covered it since it was a humidifier with the HVAC. But it was the HVAC part that we had a problem with and it was overlooked. That was a bit of a bummer, but that's the only snafu we've run into.
We had a bunch of work done in the house and the last plumber who went shut off the lights, but he actually shut off the whole unit using the switch. So, we paid $75 for a switch. But for the most part, all of our contractors have been very great. My recent claim was submitted over the phone. I always do it that way and sometimes the wait times are excessive. I try and call either late night or early morning to try and get away from that so, I put them on speaker then go about my business. Overall, we’ve been happy with AHS and all the services we’ve had have been very good.

My main unit had flipped off after we had that snow weather and I didn’t know it even had a flip switch because it’s an older unit. So I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield when I realized that there was an issue and we had no heat. And then I called to make sure the claim went through and was told they couldn't get to me until Tuesday. Still it went fine.
The contractor and his counterpart that they sent were awesome. They came in and in less than 30 minutes. They came back and said that there was nothing wrong with the unit. He added that because the power had been out it flipped the kill switch because it isn’t a furnace. He just flipped the switch and told me that if anything went on in the next 30 days he would come out under the same call. He was very professional.
It was my first time using American Home Shield as a home warranty company. I was referred by one of their customers that worked with me. She told me to try them out and I did. And most likely I will re-up with them again because although they were not able to get out the next day they kept me informed and the following day after that they had somebody out here. They did try to work and got to me sooner being that I had no heat.

When my electric cooktop stopped working, I filed the claim online with American Home Shield and it was very easy. They have a little checklist type thing that one can follow. I followed it and I got a callback within 24 hours to set up the appointment for the contractor's initial visit. The repair person was really nice and he came out on time for his appointment. He looked at the cooktop and told me exactly what was going to happen next. He said that he had to do some research to see if he can find the broken part. Then he told me I'd hear back from him if he could find the part, otherwise, I would hear back from American Home Shield.
American Home Shield said that they weren't able to find the part. Then they sent me an email about the replacements because there were several choices I can pick from. We decided that since it had to be replaced, we might as well go with an upgrade. We ended up going from electric to gas, which took a little longer because I had to have a gas line put in. I also had to pay $250 for the upgrade. I was expecting a lot more than that and I didn’t think it would be that reasonable to upgrade it. And the only thing I had to do was go online and pick out the one I wanted. It was such an easy process. American Home Shield is absolutely wonderful and really easy to work with. When they say that they're going to call back within 24 hours, they always come through. And if you're not happy with somebody, they automatically just change it out and send somebody different.

The air conditioner went out and submitting a claim online was easy. The contractor texted us and emailed us when they were coming. They came when they said they were and they were in and out in 30 minutes. Everything went fine and the air conditioner has been working since then. However, when I ran into problems in the past, I had to talk to somebody and it was brutal. It took 35-45 minutes to get a human being. It’s very difficult and if you have a problem, it’s hard to get it fixed. Otherwise, we’re okay and it works well.

A month ago, the electric furnace stopped working. I filed a claim with AHS online and their website was easy to navigate. I got a confirmation between 15 and 30 minutes from the tech of the company that AHS was going to use. The technician came out and he was good. He diagnosed the problem, put some part and it started working within a couple of minutes. He even changed the filters upstairs for me and told me what to do. Everything was smooth. But I had them come back out when I heard a noise and it felt cold upstairs. The technician came back yesterday and he said there was something but not actually with the furnace. We were feeling the cold air over the garage and the technician said it's because it's cold in that room.
I've been happy every time with the technicians. There was never a time when someone came out and wasn't courteous or didn't fix the problem. But there was one time when the technician had to come back within three weeks. They didn't do what they thought was best at that time. Nevertheless, every time I called or went online, I've always had someone respond in a timely manner. I experienced something that they didn't cover, but they were good to explain why it wasn't covered. I've told people that they should do something like this.

I recently called American Home Shield for my dishwasher and my experience has been great both with the rep that I spoke to and the contractor they sent. The guy who came was efficient and honest. And my dishwasher has worked good so far. Every time I've called AHS, they have always sent someone out timely. And if the problem was not fixed the first day, they always came back until it was fixed. If they had to get a part, they’d always call a day before they come or give me a time even before they got to the house and I appreciated that. AHS has fixed some appliances that were quite old for me. Having a home that’s aging or even a brand new one, it's easier to pay the AHS fee than to entirely replace a brand new appliance.

Everything has been excellent with American Home Shield, especially my most recent experience with them. The refrigerator was not working. I made a report for it and right away, their rep got in it and the contractor called me within an hour for their people to repair it. Then, I was surprised that the repairman came immediately. He was very courteous, knowledgeable and was one of the nicest repairmen I ever met. He checked my refrigerator, tried to solve the problem and got it running again. Then he called the next day to make sure that it was still working. I was very impressed and would recommend American Home Shield to friends. I'd tell them that if they want an insurance to repair anything in their house in case something breaks, give AHS a call.

When I bought the house, my realtor recommended American Home Shield and I’ve had it since 2002. I usually file my claim over the phone and it’s automated most of the time. The people I talk to are always very courteous and helpful. The last two calls that I got from them went to my voicemail since I wasn't able to answer, but they left messages that were informative and nice. My recent claim was for a water heater and they replaced it. I thought the job would take a lot longer but the contractors were done really fast. They explained everything to me after they finished as to what they did and how to expect this appliance to perform. AHS has always been really good and has done what I've expected. The experience has always been great and I would definitely recommend them.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for our dryer and their site was pretty self-explanatory. But the experience hasn’t been good. It was for the heating element that we had paid already four times for the contractor to come out and the part to be replaced. So when the gentleman came out this last time, he told me that it was the heating element again. But I said I wanted the dryer replaced. The contractor then sent the request up and it got approved. And then AHS came back and told me how much they could give me and the model number.
The replacement is a white one but I have a silver, so I asked for the silver dryer. AHS said it wasn’t covered. So then, I had to research four dryers and give AHS the model numbers. It’s been four weeks and they’ve not responded. AHS is the one to say whether or not it’s the one they can purchase at the price they've given me. My claim hasn’t been resolved yet, so I still have to put my dryer on three or four times for one load.
Monica, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

We bought a fairly new home. And we thought we were getting a fairly new refrigerator, but it's not. Apparently, the people who sold this home bought another home and they switched refrigerators. The one we have now makes this horrible knocking noise. It is so loud that it wakes us up at night and sometimes it sounds almost like a gun going off. It was still cooling and working but the compressor was going out and I wanted it fixed before it actually goes out and let my food ruin.
A guy from ABM Appliance Repair came the first time. He opened the refrigerator and said that it's cooling, picked up his bag, and started to walk out. He said, "If it's cooling, they won't pay me and I'm not wasting my time." So he just left. I called American Home Shield and asked, "Seriously? You guys wouldn’t pay to have this repaired before you have to buy a new one?" That didn’t make sense to me. The rep said that they would take care of it. They just had to have the technician go and tell them what's wrong with it. So, she put a recall in.
Then ABM called me and said, "Will you please record the sounds that it's making and send us the file?" So, I did because I've got a phone that would do the recording and it took me all day to be able to run in and catch it at the right timing. I sent them two recordings so they could see that one was really loud and one was longer than the other but I never heard a word from them. So two weeks later, I called and asked, “Aren't you guys going to set up an appointment to come?" Their rep said no and that the refrigerator sounds fine, that it is just more noisy than others.
I've owned many homes and many refrigerators and it was not right. ABM's rep said sorry and that it was just a waste of their time. So, they would not come out. I tried calling American Home Shield twice. One time, I was on hold for over two hours and my phone finally died. I'm not happy. We pay $75 and as long as they never put a claim in, AHS never has to pay, so it's a winning situation for American Home Shield even though all of their customers lose.
Kimberly,
Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your overall customer experience. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist.

We had a leak that was going down inside the cabinet under the sink. We didn't know what it was, so we thought it was the dishwasher. It turned out to be the actual closet itself, the whole line, the handheld, all of it. The plumber from AHS replaced it, now it's great. He was good and personable. He told us that we had to get the approval and the parts, so we might have more water. He did a really good a quick fix until we got the actual stuff. So, it was fine.

I can't say enough bad thing so about this company from the customer service phone hold time, to the vendors they use, the amount of time it takes to approve work. Which never gets approved anyways! They just stall to find an excuse to deny the claims. We have been a customer for over 3 years. The first time we called was during the December 2017- Jan 2018. Freezing weather the east coast was having. We were stuck at home with no heat!!! After 2 weeks they denied a $500 claim to fix a fan. I absolutely hate them. Please beware. They are nothing more than scammers and the funny thing is they get away with it.
I understand your frustration with the hold times, delay in service, denials to claims to repair your issues. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

HORRIBLE: I have never experienced anything positive with AHS. First and foremost, I'm being charged for something that is suppose to be covered under the warranty plan. Our Hot water heater went out, I opened a service request, and the designated plumbing company came out 2 days later (Rite-A-Way Services, Inc). Not only does AHS not cover the cost of install of the new appliance, they don't cover the cost of any needed modifications for the new hot water heater. Now, we have to wait 4-5 business days for them to purchase a new hot water heater, then another 3-5 days for the scheduling of the water heater to get installed. During winter time, my family of 6 have to about 2 weeks before getting a new hot water heater to be installed, plus I'm obligated to pay $630 that isn't covered by AHS, which was never discussed when buying our warranty.
What puts the icing on the cake is that when placing a call into AHS, I have always been on Hold Longer than an hour and a half. Then, my call got transferred and was hold for another 70 minutes. I'm shocked in how American Home Shield is still in business. If I could cancel my contract with them I would, but I have to wait another 6 months while they rob me and my family blind, but legally. I sincerely hope at least one person reads this and changes their mind when considering home warranties as this is only one example I've experienced with AHS. I'll be leaving many other reviews and complaints to make sure many other people see this. Oh and by the way, I'm still on hold with the purchasing department to try and expedite our new hot water heater, but I'm sure that will get denied... So, if this says anything, I've been on hold the entire time while writing this review.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your water heater replaced, the hold times to speak with a customer service representative, and the noncovered cost to complete the job. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

If you have a basic problem they are ok but God help you if you need to call them. They intentionally short staff their phones. What good does it do them to take your call? We have been without a microwave now for 5 weeks. Our technician claims the missing part does not exist. AHS tells us they will find it. 5 weeks later microwave is still broken. If you want to call them be prepared to spend well over one hour only to then be transferred. Dealing with them is just awful. You have been warned.
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have experienced as well as the delay in service to repair the microwave due to a part. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I just spent the last few months defending American Home Shield just to be proven very, very wrong. What happened? I've been with them for years now and it's gone from bad to extremely horrible. The wait time of over an hour with no human interaction is real. To the point my property managers are choosing to charge me for the super long wait. Over an hour with absolutely nothing? Who does that? This is insane! I didn't believe it until I just did it 3 times and gave up myself. We are all working adults. Why would anyone want to sit on hold for that long? My question is still unanswered, issue still unresolved and the email function on their website conveniently doesn't work.
Not surprisingly I hear (previous post) that the sales phone works just fine! There are a million contact numbers for which they all lead you to the hold queue. Then I see here someone keeps saying a social media specialist will reach out but I do not use or have time to hang out on social media and that's not how I got the contract with them nor how they get their renewal fees. I still need to ask my question, is this even possible? Or just move on elsewhere? This is so sad this is the only way to get a response and maybe at that.
I understand your frustration with the hold times you have experienced as well as the delay in service. Please provide me with your contract number and I will follow up with you.
Thank you,

I filed my claim online on 1/3 and it said that we would have a call from Pool Time within 24 hours. 48 hours goes by and I called them (Pool Time) and left a message. No reply to my message. So on 1/6 I called AHS and was on hold for over an hour and the answer was we will call and leave them a message. I told them that I already have and I just want a new contractor and they stated we have to give them 48 hours to respond.
I stated that I called Wednesday and we are at Saturday and we are not getting a reply. I asked to speak to a MGR and was told there was no MGR to talk to me and I should call back on Monday to talk to a MGR... I stated I did not feel it was right to wait another hour to talk to a MGR!!! They said they would have a MGR call me on Monday. This company is impossible to deal with. If you need a repair, expect to wait for 2 to 3 hours on the phone listening to how busy they are and they will be with you in 15 minutes when it is already 2 hours. Even the contractors they use say it is impossible to get ahold of them. This is common complaint with this company. I have reported them to the BBB in Memphis TN. Also, Wednesday January 10, 2018 a repairman will be out AGAIN (4th time) to fix my fridge. Started in early October 2017. If you go on Social Media Facebook, look under Class Action Suit for American Home Shield, you will see many more complaints like mine. This is ridiculous.
Updated on 01/17/2018: My refrigerator is still not working and now the ice maker quit. A contractor came out 4 times, replaced 4 parts and now the refrigerator makes a horrible noise. The last time the contractor was here, he replaced a part and left. THEN my ice maker wasn't working. I called AHS because they said they couldn't fix the noise as it wasn't covered. So we start over with another 100.00 fee.
I also had an order in to fix my stove top that quit. WELL... AHS set me up with a contractor and the contractor was to come out to fix the stovetop and refrigerator. Only problem, that company does not work on Samsung refrigerators. AHS said it was MAYTAG. I told them SAMSUNG. So what does AHS do. They cancel BOTH appoints. Now I have to wait a week to have my stove fixed. Sounds like they don't have both oars in the water. I am fed up with them. To contact them, you can guarantee to be on a recorded message for no less than 1 hour and up to 4 hours. I highly recommend that if you are thinking of using this AHS company, you think again.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I think, your service vendors are incompetent, at least the two experiences I had in the last 18 months. In Sep 2017, my electric dryer needed repairs, and All Brand Appliances was sent to my home. The techs came twice for a dryer repair. First visit, the tech said the dryer vent clogged by lint is the problem that dryer takes two hours to dry the clothes. I had cleaned the vent before, but he still insisted that professional cleaning was needed. Then I told him to check the heating element, which I suspected one of them not working due to current draw that I checked. He finally agreed and found out one the two heating elements was bad and ordered the part.
Then a different technician came and with the part he did not know how to install the heating element and he messed up the dryer while installing the element, the drum was wobbling and making noise while rotating. He did not know how to check the heating element function. He insisted that the heating elements, both were new and so they should be working okay. I was not sure, though the elements were new parts, the contacts were rusted and he did not know whether one or both elements were working. He left saying everything is working ok, just by touching the dryer while running. I checked by current draw, that did not indicate different draw.
The dryer problem never got solved even with new heating element, it took two hours to dry a small load and in addition it was rubbing and making noise. When I called All Brand Appliances, they told me the problem is with the dryer vent and not the heating element. So, I paid $120 and got a professional dryer vent cleaner and cleaned the whole system again. The dryer problem never got solved.
When I called All Brand Appliances, they told me that they are done with this and I had to call AHS and take it up with them. I had no recourse, and I spent close to $200 and hassle and the problem was worse than before I called AHS and All Brand Appliances. I was frustrated with AHS and All Brand Appliances and I bought a new dryer from Home Depot and got it installed by Home Depot. Then I found out that All Brand Appliances had a poor rating and a lot of customers had experiences similar to that of mine due to the incompetency of their technicians.
Now on Jan 7, 2017 my heating system is not working well, condenser was making very loud noise and the condenser unit was not completing the defrost cycle, and the unit was running all the time. I called AHS and I was assigned Total Air Care. To be careful, I checked the customer reviews of Total Air Care, and they were horrible, same story with AHS warranty, incompetent techs and no customer satisfaction. Also, I found that AHS did not want to change the company and assign a different service provider. All the service providers of AHS are quick in making appointments, but techs lack repair knowledge and training. I do not want to go through like others, costly repair option of changing the condenser of the whole system. Customer reviews are bad on Total Air Care.
If I did not have AHS warranty, I will not hire these companies or allow these techs to do any repairs of my appliances. With that in mind, I do not see any benefit of having this AHS warranty and I see the monthly premium a total waste. In addition, I have to incur additional cost to remedy the damage done by these techs, or replace the whole system pushed by the vendors with jacked up price. It’s an opportunity for the service vendors to sell new system or make money using incompetent techs.
It’s a shame AHS is not working in my area, due to incompetent techs of service providers. AHS warranty may be worthwhile in other parts of the county, but not where I live. My neighbor had similar experience with AC system and the service provider installed a new system at my neighbor’s cost. So, I cancelled my AHS service. It's a total waste of money and it costs more to fix the damages done by AHS vendors. Stay away from American Home Shield, especially if you are in Northeast Florida.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

After my original review was posted, someone from the AHS social media team contacted me and resolved the issue in a timely manner.
Original Review: Jan. 9, 2018
I had two claims that started at the same time with American Home Shield. It was regarding a cooking range and a plumbing issue. I opened a ticket online for the cooking range and within the first 30 minutes, someone from MMAB Appliance called me and an appointment was scheduled. The appointment was very smooth and the person who showed up was great. He figured out what the issue was, kept me up to date on what was happening, and replaced the part. So it was a very good experience.
I again opened a ticket for the plumbing issue and no one called me for almost five days after that. Finally, I received a call from the plumbing company and we set up a date. The guy showed up at the right time and was here for less than 10 minutes. He was giving snarky comments and said that the issue would be resolved but he wouldn't be able to replace the shower handle with the same bronze-colored finish that I had. He would put in another with a chrome finish and if I wanted a bronze one, I should order it myself and he would come and replace it.
After that, I found out online what that piece was and I was okay to pay for the piece myself. But I was expecting that the guy would come in and replace it once it was approved by American Home Shield. But a couple of days after that, I got a call from American Home Shield saying that the guy who went in diagnosed the issue as something that happened because of force and not corrosion so American Home Shield wouldn't cover it. It took me by surprise as the guy could have told me there and then if it was due to force. The diagnosis that he gave me was totally different than what was entered into the system.
I tried calling American Home Shield about it and they told me that I could ask another person or a different plumbing agency to come and diagnose the issue and if their diagnosis was different, then they would fix it and I wouldn't have to pay the $75 fee for the second one. At that point, I didn’t to go through the hassle again so I just ended the claim.
I even spoke with one of their customer service agents on the phone for a long 30-minute call and I tried to explain to them the experience that I had. I told them that for this issue, I even looked on YELP for the person who was assigned to me and there were similar reviews from multiple people who had this person through their home warranty, not just with AHS. A lot of people had similar experiences so I hope AHS would consider that when selecting which vendor to assign. I was told that AHS apparently didn’t follow online reviews because they may not be correct, but they take customer feedback into consideration so I hope my feedback would be taken into consideration.
Sumedh,

My kitchen sink had a leak and I couldn’t use it. Filing a claim online with American Home Shield was so easy and the people that they sent were polite and on time. They said their name when they came in, they took care of what they were going to take care of, cleaned up and left. They were able to fix the problem. AHS has been great.

There are times when my dishwasher leaks and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield to have it repaired. We did it online and then they charged us. They then got somebody out fairly promptly. However, this has been going on for two to three months. The first two times that people came out, they replaced the parts and it did not leak anymore, but it has eventually started again for no apparent reason. This would be the third time and I tried getting a hold of the technicians, but they must be on vacation due to the holiday. It's irritating that if something doesn't go quite right, we could never get a hold of them on the phone and there's never anyone there to speak to. It's always done online. Other than that, the contractors that they use are good. I would recommend them.

I had a stopped-up tub and I needed a plumber to get it undone. I called American Home and told them about the situation. They dispatched a plumber, and it went pretty smoothly. The plumber called me back within an hour from talking to AHS, scheduled a time for the next morning to come out, and was out here the next morning. He knew exactly what he needed to do. He had the right tools and he had the tub cleared out within 30 minutes. Everything worked real well. The warranty is worth it.

I recently had a plumbing issue, and I used American Home Shield's online incident kind of reporting. I got a response within a couple of minutes. They called me and tried to schedule an appointment for a plumber to come out. Their online system is pretty user-friendly. It's also pretty fast. Within a couple of seconds, I was able to navigate through and put a ticket in. The only thing is the system is kind of limited. It doesn’t give options to do multiple things that come up. It just gives one thing. When I had other problems in the past, I had to call them and tell them there was more than one issue. If I go online and put in more than one claim, I get charged $75 per incident. And then when I call them, I usually have to wait on hold for an hour and a half. So, the online incident thing is much more effective and quicker. It sends out an alert to whatever services you're trying to get them to do. They get a notification very quickly, within minutes.
The questions are fairly vague though. If I got a plumbing issue, leak is not even on there. It doesn’t get very specific. There's no room for any more amplifying information. It would be better if I could type in a few things that kind of gives it a little more detail. But the contractor has been good. I've had the same guy over three times because I've had multiple issues in the house. He's been very receptive and very quick. Once you start getting into old plumbing, something else goes wrong. And he's been very good about taking care of it and addressing it right away. Most of the time, he fixes the issue fairly quickly. If he doesn't have the parts, he orders them and so it will be a couple of days in between.
I've been using American Home Shield for several years. I own four properties, so I have used them a bit. They've been very good about taking care of any of the issues that I've had. Definitely, I'd recommend them to other folks. In fact, I have recommended them recently to family members. American Home Shield is doing a good job. You're paying a little bit more than some other services, but they have excellent service, for the most part. They only need to watch about being competitive because there are other companies out there that are trying to steal away their business. They need to work on is getting some more folks who can answer phone lines. I have a property manager in Hawaii, and he and I both have spent an hour and a half or more on hold waiting for someone to address an issue.

We have a house that was built in 1925. We love it dearly but it was a project beyond our wildest dreams. We had leaky toilets and a leaky refrigerator at our rental and the tenants were complaining about it. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was totally easy because I did it online which was a hundred times better. It was very time efficient because I didn't have to wait on the phone and go through numbers. I just submitted an email to them requesting service, then they got back to me by email within 24 hours. The contractors that AHS sent were right on time. The refrigerator guy had some questions that the tenant couldn't answer so he just dialed me up and it was very good. Another plus for AHS is that they can deal with non-typical situations like plumbing that is not up to code. I've already recommended AHS to people.

Everybody whom American Home Shield has sent here has been wonderful. However, it's hard to get a representative on the telephone. My daughter usually does the claim online 'cause I don't know how to do it. Recently, our heating unit quit working. The contractor came and worked on it. It took a while for them to get another part for it. But they finally did, and took care of it. It's cold here in Mississippi and thank goodness the heating unit has been working wonderfully since the repair. I've been pleased with everybody. Delays happen, but it's not their fault. I'd tell everybody about American Home Shield.

I've had problems with American Home Shield before. I have been told that if my appliance was not broken, they were not going to fix it. This time, my air conditioner was broken and it was a pain to get it done. Their call center is horrible. I still couldn't talk to a human, and I had to go through all the Mickey Mouse nonsense on the phone with AT&T and the recording. Eventually, Barnett Air Conditioning told us the time frame on the phone. They told us when their technician was coming and where he was at. A couple of years ago, they sent a kid out and I wasn't impressed with him at all. He was just a kid with a work belt and a tool belt on his hip. Jim was very efficient and clean though, and Barnett Air Conditioning did a good job. They kept me informed even on out of town. Since the repair, I have had good air flowing and my air conditioner is not making a bunch of noise like it has for the last two years.

They came back this last Thursday and said that they found a different problem and they fixed it. So far, so good. I submitted that claim over the phone and their customer reps were very good. However, it took a while for my call to get through because of the snowstorm and we had a lot of people having issues. The long wait time is not usual and happens every now and then. The contractor came in, did the job and they left. We've had pleasant experiences with the contractors except one and we've got them down on the list of AHS to not send them back. We've had a very easy and good experience with American Home Shield. I've tried the two other companies and American Home Shield seemed to be the best one on the market. They do what they say. I've had other ones that would indicate they've done plumbing but when I come to it they didn't do it. And then the other one said they would fix my microwave but they didn't do it either. They're charging me extra too.
I usually submit claims online with AHS and it's done very easily. I just get on their website and I would put the issue there. Then when the person calls to make an appointment for the contractor, they usually ask a question about what they would be doing. People like me don't know all the ins and outs and sometimes they can help you out quite a bit. The last time contractors were here they replaced the faucet and they had done a great job. When they couldn't fix something because it was worn out they replaced it with a brand new one. In everything that Home Shield's contractors have done, I haven't had to call back on them so they've done good.

The drain on my tub stopped up and I called American Home Shield. I wasn’t on hold for a long period of time for this particular time, although sometimes you can be on hold for three, five or ten minutes. It depends on what’s going on around the city. The plumber called within 24 hours and we scheduled that same week for him to come out and the problem was resolved. So far, the contractors had been reliable and accommodating. If I need a morning or an afternoon appointment, they seem to be able to find something. They’re always professional.
The only problem I had was with my furnace. We went back and forth several times with my furnace because it was an old one and the AHS policy states that if it breaks and they can’t fix, it’ll be replaced. They had several people come in to inspect and to check it and they were saying the same thing. It couldn't be fixed, it was too old and it had to be replaced. But AHS wanted the first company to try this and that. They had to get a second company to come in and they also said the same thing as the first. I got a little upset about that because it was a long period of time before they actually said they would replace it.
But minor things like the tub, the dishwasher and things that can be fixed right away, they'll fix. The furnace was the only thing I had to have replaced and it took us all an inordinate amount of time. I thought it was so unfair since they had to replace and they guaranteed that they’ll replace but I had to go through a lot before they replaced anything. But even though I had that problem, I’ve had AHS for a number of years.

We had a leaking faucet and shower and I ended up with two different visits through American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online and their website was fairly straightforward. The first one that came out was confusing to me. He was telling me about the code and it really didn’t make sense to me. Since I wasn’t here, they explained it over the phone and what he was telling me didn’t add up because I have a shower with two handles, one for hot and one for cold. He was telling me that their company is not allowed to repair those when they’re leaking because it was not code compliant so he left.
Another company came called Meyer’s Plumbing and I was expecting them to tell me the same thing but they repaired the problem by putting a washer in it. Normally you wouldn’t have two different companies coming out. I questioned why there were two but I was never given an answer. I did put faucet and shower in the claim so maybe that’s why. I thought that AHS was to send one plumber to handle both but I’m glad they sent two different ones.
However, some of their new process when you call in definitely needs to be updated so it shows who you are with the whole name. I wish there’s some way to carry forward our information upfront to the agent. Also, one of the things that would be helpful is to be able to sign up from their valid contractors for other work that would be outside of what American Home Shield does. For instance, I needed my bathroom remodeled, I don’t know if I can just ask these contractors to come out to my house because usually, they’re saying, “No, they contract with American Home Shield.”
I wish they could give a recommendation for a valid contractor, one that they’ve screened that I could be comfortable in using versus going out and trying to find one on my own because there are so many of these people. They’ll just take everything and end up costing way more than what was projected. I feel more comfortable if it was a recommendation from AHS. Other than that, they’ve been a very good company and I recommend them to all people. AHS takes the worry out of having to find a reliable contractor and I don’t have to worry about somebody coming out and trying to rip me off. The fee we pay is normally what it costs.

I called American Home Shield and told them what my issues were and then they had someone call me and set up an appointment. The contractor came in but he had an issue because the other workers told me it was the tank, but actuality, it was the pipe going into the water heater. I called American Home Shield for a claim and set up an appointment. A company then called back to say when they could come in to take a look but that became a little tricky. There was a bit of back and forth and me getting annoyed before they took action. There was a leak and even though we turned off the water valve, it was still leaking because it needed to drain all the water from the tank. For two days, it was draining and the basement was soaking.
American Shield said that they had 48 hours to respond but I thought that was too long being that we had the water going for the entire weekend. The rep insisted that we had to wait another 48 hours and I insisted on speaking to a manager. There was a back and forth between me and her until she finally agreed that they would contact another company and that company was able to come out in 24 hours as opposed to 48 hours. My husband dealt with the contractor and everything went okay. Overall, it's a hit or miss with American Home Shield. They need to realize that sometimes things are emergencies so their 48 hours doesn’t fit into that. In such cases, they have to waive that 48 hours.

I have only had my insurance with AHS for 2 years and have always had a good experience. This recent time I have had to file a claim for a shower pipe leak behind the wall and my experience was not so great. I submitted a claim on 17 Dec 17 to AHS to see about a leak I guess was happening over time because I didn't notice it until I saw that my living room wall table was warping and my wall border was turning colors. AHS sent BISSETT PLUMBING INC to come out on 20 Dec 17 to take a look at the problem. The contractor was polite, but the service was short. After about 20 min, I was told by the contractor that he couldn't recreate the "LEAK" in my master bathroom shower and that it was probably my shower that was leaking behind the wall and that I will have to cut into my wall myself to find out what the problem is myself.
So I paid $100 just for a contractor to come out and tell me what the problem "might" be. I currently can’t use my master bedroom shower because this issue has yet to be fixed. It is in my contract for this type of service for AHS to handle and pay to have fixed. Why am I paying to have this insurance coverage for my home if they are only coming out to tell me what the problem might be. If this issue isn't resolved, I will be cancelling my coverage and telling all of my family and friends to cancel theirs as well. I didn't even receive a receipt of the service provided.

American Home Shield has the worst customer relation I ever experienced. This is the short story: I have two contracts with them for over 5 years now. Both contracts paid in advance for a year. On 18th of December one refrigerator stopped working in one of the "COVERED-INSURED" properties. Since then, I made: request on AHS site, then several calls to AHS, then sent them 2 emails on their site.
Finally, they assigned a company, but the company get my old phone number –on AHS site they had the right number but AHS did not "UPDATED" the repair company with the contact number. Then they assigned the second company for repair this time with the right phone on file. Repair person –technician- did not solve the issue. They ordered parts sometimes between 23th of December 2017-28 of December. We are now on January 8th, 2018 and I have to repair / or buy it on my own money no one on AHS seems to know the status of the repair. IT TOOK ME THIS HOLIDAY SEASON - MORE THAN 12 HOURS CALLS TO FIND OUT.
So here we are: 20 days after reported defective appliance; AHS waiting time for a representative assistance over 1 hour at least; no one of their reps seems to know, to care or to give a damn on this contract paid in good faith; good people stay away from this -do not give them money. It's a total waste. I give them 1/2 star rate - because they have so nice music on the waiting calls. Finally they destroyed my contract, missed my Holidays goodies –no refrigerator -but they did not ruined my mood... good mood.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

This company has a good website for requesting service however there is virtually no way to get to a human with questions or follow up. I’ve had an open request for >4 or 5 months for a repair to my air conditioner. No way to reach them by phone, I keep getting a msg that states “wait time is greater than 60 minutes”, no way to send them an email. So, I sit here holding a phone hoping that “greater than 60 minutes" does not mean hours on hold. If you need a home warranty service, try another one. This company doesn’t care enough to do something as basic as answering a customer telephone call.
Updated on 01/15/2018: Avoid this company, they are happy to take your premium but if it’s going to cost them anything, they disappear. They will not respond, I’ve called 2x and waited “for the next operator” >60 minutes the first time before I disconnected the call and >70 minutes the second time before disconnecting. AHS sent an air con serviceman to my home on 10/10/17 and I never heard from him again. It is impossible to contact AHS, see my prev review, but after posting here, AHS sent me an email stating they were sorry about lack of ability to contact them... then I never heard from them again, here’s the email I sent to the CS rep who contacted me:
“Stacy, then obviously you saw my review. I have since tried to call your company again and gave up again. Look at my open request in your system, I believe the date the service on my air conditioner began was 10/10/17 and I have heard nothing from anyone since then. This is going so slowly that either your company or the air conditioner repair company has forgotten about this requested repair. Or, the ac company you guys sent out is unable to do the repair.
I’m very unhappy about this lack of service and very disturbed about how hard it is to reach someone at your company. I shouldn’t have to post a complaint on a third party website to reach someone from AHS. I WANT MY AIR CONDITIONER REPAIRED or a new air conditioner. Did the repair company give up because they can’t repair it? If so, I need a new ac unit. I’m pushing on this because at the rate this repair is taking, it will be Spring before long... and it gets hot here in Raleigh. Please understand my patience has reached its limit.”
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We had a loss of water due to our well pump and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was not a great experience. I initially submitted the claim through the automated system, waited full 24 hours and didn’t even get the confirmation email saying that it had been received by them. And of course, we were without water in our home. So, I called back again and waited on hold for an hour and 20 minutes to get a snarky customer service representative. He was quite indifferent about the situation. I was trying to explain that I like to request a specific plumber because when it comes to low pumps, not everyone knows how to work on them well and she said, “Well, it hasn’t been assigned yet, so I can't put a request on it.” I said, “Then well can you put a note that when they do assign it this is the one I'd like them to assign it to.”
And then she came back a few minutes later and said, “No. There's only one plumber that can do it and so it won't be your plumber.” I was like, “Well you didn’t even tell me the name of it nor did I give you the name of my plumber, so how do we know?” And it turned out it was my plumber. It was really poor customer service which is common, unfortunately, with American Home Shield. We've been with American Home Shield for a few years and more often than not, there are extended hold times that you have to wait for an hour. It takes at least that long almost every time to speak to a person and it was very common for the person on the other end to be indifferent. My interactions and the services I’ve had with the contractors sent have been good. However, we had one plumbing company that was clearly trying to rip off much at us and American Home Shield as well.
I have a plumber in the family, and the plumber that AHS sent out was charging almost three times as much as any other plumber was charged with the service, but other than that one bad plumber, we haven’t had any other bad experiences. We also had to have a refrigerator replaced once and they sent Sears out and the Sears delivery people broke our door jamb and bent the refrigerator's side panel, and then just left. My mom was there to receive the order. It was so quick I didn’t see it until I got home from work. But for the most part, the service calls that we've received have been through good contractors. American Home Shield is one of the only options that we have for home warranties and I wish they would improve their customer service.

The toilet on the first floor did not flush on the first flush and the toilet on the top floor would just run all the day. Submitting a claim to AHS was fine. I had a plumber to come out with the same issue a few months ago but it was more than the 60-day period where I wouldn’t have to pay that second time around. But the plumber at that time still called to fix the front wall. On the first floor, he said, “No, you just have to flush it and hold it.” You shouldn’t flush and hold the toilet when you flush it and I’m already mad at him. Then at the top floor where the toilet was actually running, it got as bad as it was. I’ve heard it running and I don’t know if it was because he was old and could not hear. But he said, “I don’t hear anything.” And I’m like, “Well, I hear it.” On the other hand, the contractors were very quick. They came on time and was here in about 15 minutes.
The two things I complained about and submitted a claim on for months ago were the same two things that needed to be fixed this time around. But again, it was outside of 60-day period so I didn’t bother calling American Home Shield. Usually, when it’s the same problem within 60 days, you don’t pay that extra $75. But I should have been a little bit more persistent in my complaint to them. That way, I would have avoided having to come out of pocket for another $75. The toilets are working now. It’s flushing with one flush without having to hold it and I don’t hear the toilet running upstairs. Get AHS, just in case something goes wrong in your house so you won’t be spending a boatload of money at once.

We're not fans of American Home Shield at all. They haven't called me to schedule the appliance guy to come out yet, and that's how the service always is. Normally, it's not serviced within the first 24-48 hours. The average takes about a week for something to get fixed, five to seven business days. I submit my claims online because if I call and sit on hold waiting for somebody, it takes an hour and a half to file a claim because nobody answers the phone. And when you're a stay-at-home mom with a toddler who screams while you’re on the phone, an hour and a half is not in my book.
With the technicians we’ve had, it’s about 50/50. We've had great plumbers but I’m not a fan of the appliance people. They give you excuses saying, "Oh, we got to check with your plan that you're on.” Apparently, you need to clean the underlay of your fridge once a year. As a homeowner, I've never been told that until the appliance man told me that the second time he came out. And that was after I told him that I had the topline warranty plan but he did not believe me. He ended up having to come out a second time because he didn't do the job the first time. It takes them a few tries to get the problem fixed.
I wish I could go with another company. Unfortunately, American Home Shield is one of the very few out there. And for having a top warranty with them, it really sucks. I don't feel like a VIP member at all by any means. We tried to go with another warranty company but they wanted the entire warranty cost upfront rather than a monthly payment plan. We have tried to cancel our services. American Home Shield doesn't seem to give a crap.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service have experienced on several occasions as well as the hold times to speak with a customer service representative.

I had the contractors sent by American Home Shield come in and do the improper ductwork on my AC and everything went well. This was my first time filing a claim. I did it online and it was fairly easy. The contractors were good, timely, professional and got the job done. They also cleaned up after themselves.

I was having issues with my heating system at home as it was only taking on an emergency heat. It wasn’t taking on the outside unit at all. So I went online to my account and then filed the claim through American Home Shield. I got a call within a day and somebody came out. The technicians were extremely professional. They fixed the problem right away and made sure that the rest of the system didn’t have any problems so it wouldn’t get called back out. Since the repair, the heater is a hundred percent functioning as it should be. I recommend American Home Shield to my entire family.

There'd been three recent claims to American Home Shield. Two were handled expeditiously and these were regarding a dishwasher that had an issue and our dryer that quit working. I spoke with a representative and it was reasonably good. The wait time was a little long in both cases but once we got a hold of them, it worked well. Also, both of the two contractors were very professional and did a good job. They explained, showed up and took a look at the issues. And both of them needed parts so they came back a couple days later and fixed the problem. The appliances are both working fine.
The third claim, which was with a ceiling fan, however, has not been handled well at all and it was very disappointing. They sent a contractor here who was incompetent and did not show up the first time. When we finally got him here, clearly, he couldn't handle the problem. And there was no contact. So I called back American Home Shield. I've done it three times now and they each time promised to get back to me and never have. They haven’t been able to resolve the problem. So my impression of AHS as a whole, as long as things go well, they do a good job. But when they get into a sticky issue, they kind of drop the ball. It usually works fine with them but not always.

My furnace went out 5 days ago, at the start of record setting cold weather, and put in service request. Received a call the next day, stating that it would be Monday (5 days later) before a contractor would be able to come due to high volume of requests. After several calls, and speaking to supervisors, etc. I was able to be placed on the "Emergency" list as I have a disabled senior citizen in the home with me. The "Emergency" List meant I would have a contractor out within 24-48 hours.
Contractor came out, looked at the furnace for literally 2 minutes and said there was water in the inducer(?) and the furnace would need to be replaced. Did nothing more than open the cover and look inside the furnace. Did NOTHING more than this. Stated it could be repaired, but that the part would cost almost as much as furnace replacement and that AHS would want to replace instead of just repair. Then stated that my warranty would cover the cost of the furnace, but not the installation of the furnace and that I would need to pay $1200-$1900 for the installation and would pay his company directly.
Do not understand why the contractor states they will not cover installation and that I would need to pay HIM directly for the installation. And... Installation costs 50% of the cost of the new furnace? Really? Stated that AHS would cover replacement and installation for the part, but not the entire furnace and that they would not want to replace just the part. Agreed to have claim submitted to AHS and was told they would contact me about installation of furnace.
Called AHS right after he left, and waited forever to get someone on the phone... so used the "chat" online option. Rep told me that if AHS was going to cover the replacement of the furnace that they would also cover installation cost, but that they could guarantee nothing until they received the diagnosis from the contractor and then AHS would contact me. Heard nothing that day, so called back the next day and had to use the "Chat" option again. Was told the same thing...
It's been 5 days now and still can't get a response from AHS or get anyone to answer the phone. I have been on hold for the last 1 1/2 hours waiting for the "next available representative" and fingers and toes are close to frost bite in the meantime. May have no option, but to remove the space heater from my mother's room, just so I can stay on the phone long enough to get someone to answer me.
Five days without heat, in single digit weather, with a disabled senior citizen in the home. Stores are sold out of space heaters and can't go to a hotel easily due to her disability. What do I have to do to get someone to contact us about our furnace replacement? How many more days do I need to have my mother suffer in a room that I can barely keep at 40-50 degrees with space heater and gas fireplace running? How many more days do I have to try to call before I can get a response from someone? I have only been with AHS for 2 months and I must say I am absolutely not happy with the service I am receiving.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your furnace repaired as well s the noncovered cost associated with the replacement. I would be glad to help resolve the issues as soon as possible.

So this post is for everybody that struggles to get the warranty to pay for stuff. I know phone calls are going over 2 hours. That is not cool. But if you know some of your local contractors you have to request them FIRST if they are on the vendor list before AHS finds one FOR you THEN YOU ARE IN luck because coverage is all WORDING. PUT ALL ISSUES ON ONE WORK ORDER. SEE THEN IT'S COVERED FOR 60 days without another service fee. Example I did one last week for plumbing. I put all 4 toilets on it. I put 4 bathroom sinks on it for leaks. I put kitchen sink also. Water heater, shower valves handles and stoppage for drains. Guess what, 1 SERVICE FEE AND THEY PAID TO REPLACE 4 toilets, 3 showers, 3 faucets, one heater and cleared up stoppage.
I was out $125 service fee and another $335 for the plumber due to some extra cost not covered. I asked plumber how much was everything. It was close to 4k. They were there 3 days and I request the same companies??? Next is AC HEAT AND WALL FURNACE. 3 units 1 service fee next week. You just have to work them and you will get them. I have been doing this for 18 years the game has benefits if you know how to play the system. GOOD LUCK.
Dree,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I then did a phone call as well and the reps were pretty nice too and they did a good job. The contractors came out right away and fixed the heater. They did an excellent job and I was happy. My heater has been working great. AHS is not a bad investment and I’ve recommended them. If something breaks and other people tell me how much money they had to spend, I tell them what I have and that they should invest in it. Right now, the account that I have with AHS only covers household stuff and not the appliances. I’ve been meaning to go online and to see how much more it would increase if I add appliances like my washer, dryer, and dishwasher.

The first issue I had was a leakage in my toilet and the second one was the pop-up assembly in my faucet broke. American Home Shield sent a contractor to fix the first issue but the pop-up assembly was not part of the contract, so they could not do that. The contractor was great. He went out of his way to explain and he took time to do his work. I had one issue again, and I placed a claim and I did not have to make a payment the second time because it was the same issue. The contractor came again, took a look at it, and said there was nothing wrong with it, and then everything worked out fine.

We have some issues but not against American Home Shield. I had some trouble with the people they were sending to my house to get things fixed. Some of the contractors were so self-righteous. The people that they sent can’t find anything wrong with my gas furnace because when we installed it in, it runs but it won’t get any hotter than six to seven in the room. If that’s the case, there must be something wrong with the thermostat and they never worked its issue. They sent Cecil and Sons and I told them don’t come back to my house anymore. Then they sent Harbor Air and they did well. But even now, the thermostat will turn the thing on and off without you messing with it. I told them to turn it off but it doesn’t turn off so that’s the problem.
I called American Home Shield and they know about the people that they’ve sent. They’ve sent three different companies out to fix this little problem and each time the company sends, they come three times. Cecil and Sons came twice and Harbor Air came three times so that’s eight times that they’ve sent somebody out. I’ve explained this to everybody but nobody wanted to take that thermostat off and put me a new thermostat on. I don’t believe there’s something wrong with the gas heater. It’s really getting sort of frustrating.
I normally file my claims on the phone and sometimes, I wait for an hour to get American Home Shield to answer me. It takes some time. One night, I waited an hour and 32 minutes. They’re so busy in the winter that you have to wait and wait and they tell you that you were number 38 on the list and your wait was going to be an hour and 40 minutes.
However, the people that I talked to at American Home Shield were always kind. They’re never trying to rush you or talk down to you like you don’t know what you’re talking about. The only problem I have with them is how much money they cost me every year. Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend them. I just wish that we don’t have to wait. It’s cold in my house and it takes a half hour to get somebody on the phone with American Home Shield.

Our dishwasher was not working at all. It would turn on but there were numerous things wrong. The motherboard, a pump and something else had to be replaced. It was easy to submit the claim. It had to be done online because there's no way you can get through to American Home Shield via phone. I was on hold for an hour and it is not exaggerating.
The contractor was fine. However, when parts are needed, American Home Shield orders the parts to come into their distribution warehouse and then from there, it shipped out to the person or the company that's doing the repairs. I was told that as soon as the parts come in, I will get a call to set up an appointment. But it wasn't until after the second part when the contractor told me that it was needed and that it's going to take up to two weeks to get the part in. I even said that I would go to Sears parts and buy the part and bring it and then we could replace the part and I take the part that he'll get back to Sears and get my money back. And he told we can't do that. So it took up to two to three weeks just to get the contractors to come back out. And with three parts that went out, it took nearly three months to get it replaced and get the dishwasher working properly.
American Home Shield needs to hire some more people, not only in their call center but they need to do something different to get those parts faster because that's just totally unacceptable. And if my contract didn't renew, I wouldn't have renewed with them and then just gone with a plan with Sears or another company. I'd tell others that if they have something that's over five years old or if they think something's going to go out that's over $500 in that year, then American Home Shield is the place to go. Otherwise, don't.

Like for example with faucet or plumbing and it would say, "kitchen," but it won’t let you say, “I have a leak under my kitchen sink.”
The contractors have always been great but a couple has tried to steer me away from American Home Shield because according to them this home warranty company doesn’t pay a fair wage compared to the others. But I’ve been with American Home Shield since 1998 and for the most part I’ve been happy with them from the different addresses I’ve been at. One of their subcontractors in this area is called Sundance. I’ve had to call them four times and they were rude to my parents so I told American Home Shield that I did not want them coming back out to my house again and AHS noted that on my file.
But I have a bit of a beef with American Home Shield right now. My most recent claim was handled without a problem but I’m going to fight the one before that because they charged me for some code upgrades that my previous water heater already had. I understand the codes have changed and my current heater wasn’t up-to-date. But I have earthquake straps and an overflow container that’s at the top, and they charge me to have those installed on my water heater. To me it was supposed to be for replacement. I asked for a supervisor to call me and I never received a callback. There has been a couple of times where I’ve done that and I’ve had to call them a second or a third time to get a response.
American Home Shield does a lot of changing of their contract without notifying the consumer. I talked my friend into getting American Home Shield for her house and she’s lucky she has it. But they will only cover a certain amount of her furnace problem and before it was a replacement. I used to recommend American Home Shield but my most recent interaction with them has been a really bad taste in my mouth. I feel like now I have to go to fight for stuff that was just given to me before and the service is going down a bit.

I recently had some plumbing work done in the bathroom and for a faucet that was leaking. With all of my previous service requests, the service fee was automatically charged to my credit card that they have on file. So in I assumed that my recent claim was charged as well, but it wasn’t and I ended up receiving a late payment notice email from American Home Shield. I called them and was told that in that particular service claim, I did not indicate that it should be automatically charged to my credit card. I didn't accept that as the reason but I ended up paying for it.
Also, I was not happy with the plumbing contractor they sent. They were slow. I had to call them a couple of different times to find out the status of the service order since they had to order a part. They never got back to me nor told me the part was in at one time. On the third time, I've called to find out what was going on and they said they had just ordered the part. Another plumbing issue was an outside's hose bed which took a long time for them to take care of. But once they did the repair, everything was fine.
In all the years that I've been an American Home Shield customer, this was the first time that I’ve been dissatisfied with the quality of the service and the follow up of the servicing company which was Carl's Plumbing. There have been incidences where we had to rely upon AHS to do minor and major work, including new stoves and ovens and replacing major components in our heating system. All of those services were performed in a very timely and professional manner that’s why I was really surprised when I had the deal with Carl's Plumbing. It might be an isolated incident but it was not up to the standards that American Home Shield should be holding their contractors to.
They should really look for another plumbing contractor to service the area that I'm in. But considering everything, I have recommended American Home Shield to quite a few people especially those that have recently bought homes. It's well worth the investment because I could have one major appliance go bad and the yearly premium I’d pay would be more than covered.

I could see the numbers and the digits on my front-loading clothes dryer but it would not actually turn on. No air would blow and the tumbler wouldn’t roll. It happened on a Friday but because of the 48 business hours turnaround time, it was Tuesday when a repair person called us which I didn’t like. On three different times, parts had to be ordered. It took almost a complete month for it to get fixed. It’s our house but we rented it out so that was time missed from the tenant's work waiting for all that.
My biggest complaint, aside from the turnaround timeframe in trying to get somebody to diagnose the issue, was that American Home Shield maybe selected a repairman from the bottom of the barrel. It could have been determined from the very get-go of what was needed and they could have given us a choice between replacing all the internal components to essentially give us a dryer or a cashout. But now, I have a brand-new dryer which has nothing in it to be fixed.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and have had great experiences with them. The contractors call me up and let me know they're on their way or they send me a text. And I let them know what the problem is and they give me the assessment of whatever's broken down, and if it's going to cost me. They explain things very well. I was having problems with my pool pump and the contractor, Ultra Pool, came out. They were real professionals and took care of it as soon as possible. My pool pump has been running great since the repair.
However, submitting claims is awful. Waiting on the line for an operator is the worst. Sometimes it takes 20 to 30 minutes and by the time I get someone, I'm frustrated so, I just tell them what's going on and they let me know who's going to contact me. Also, my monthly premium at American Home Shield keeps going up. There are a lot of other companies out there and they would give me a better deal.
I was having problems with the plumbing outside and I called, and the girl that I spoke with at American Home Shield told me that I was covered up to 50 feet from my property to the public sidewalk. The guy came out here and said I was not covered because it's on my property and not on the city property. I ended up shelling out $500 to get them to dig the hole four feet deep and replaced the piping, which was a piping that belonged to my house. It was a very unexpected expense that I had to cover. You have to read your contract to make sure you understand what you're covered and what you're not covered for. Other than that, I'm happy with AHS.

I had a problem with my air conditioning. It initially started with the fan motor making this horrendous noise that we didn't even hear in the house and our neighbor came and told us. It sounded like a jet taking off. Several people came out for it. They fixed one thing and then another thing was broken so I had to wait for another service again. They replaced a condenser fan and another part with a one-half HD. Then the condenser was a bad fan blade and the motor that was just replaced needed to be changed out. And then one time, the prior service person had hooked something up backward which was found through another repair. It went on over a period of time but American Home Shield's contractors finally got my air conditioning working and back up running. They were polite, nice and did most of the work in the garage.
We also had American Home Shield out for our refrigerator before and they were always prompt to take our call. However, there was one time, shortly after the hurricane, when I waited a very long time on hold before I could get through to them. They have a $75 fee when I call them but we didn't have to pay $75 each time for all those visits because it was within a specified period of time. So once a visit's paid and have a problem within a month or two, they wouldn't recharge for that.

American Home Shield puts you on hold for 10 or 15 minutes, and then you submit a claim and they send a vendor. The different people that they send out treat certain areas like the ghetto and they do little or nothing in these places where people live on a couple of dollars. So, I know my property in the Hills was treated worse than the ones in Bloomfield or Dormont or other parts of the city. I had one guy come down at Dinwiddie Street and he put in a fluorescent bulb. He could see that the thing that holds the bulb in was cracked, but he went up there and tested it and said it was pyrite. He went out to the car, wrote me an invoice for $75, pulled the thing off, and then reported it to American Home Shield. I had to call a private guy, and he showed me where it was broken. He replaced the whole thing and that was another $200 or $300 out of my pocket in spite of the monthly fee that I’m paying American Home Shield.
The most recent claim was for a bathroom fan in my daughter’s house. We paid the $60 and the guy that came out, put a piece of toilet paper up there and the fan held the toilet paper up towards the ceiling. He said that the fan was working, and it was nothing he could do. So, I got a private guy to put a brand-new fan and light in that ceiling. Our floor was damaged so I had to put a whole new floor down there with tiles and plywood because the toilet was leaking. I was afraid that if I call American Home Shield, they are going to do nothing but put a flush thing in there and call it a day. There were some jobs that American Home Shield completed and some of the guys did pretty good, but they take shortcuts and things of that nature, and that’s why I decided to cancel all of my contracts. I have four or five accounts with American Home Shield, plus the $75 service call that they did a very poor job on.

I had a problem with my furnace. I filed the claim online and it was quick and efficient. I didn’t have any issues submitting the request. I was contacted the next business day but the issue was with the holiday, too many people went time-off and they didn’t have enough people to cover it. So, when they called me, they promised to be within five business days. I understood that but I called AHS then I asked for the service the next business day, and that was when they offered me another company to come as soon as possible.
The first contractor was disappointing. He was four months on the job and the way that he described the problem, it was inaccurate. Basically, the problem that I had was the blower on the furnace and it had the fan that pushes the hot air to the entire house. A few blades of the fan were broken and it would make noise. There was not enough air from the dock and it was a lot of noise, and he described it as, “This is an issue and it looks like it’s another object caused this.” So, once he said that, I talked to him, “Do you find the object?” “No, I think another object caused this to happen.” So, what could have happened? I’m a homeowner and I cannot go there and put an object or something, or the object came from somewhere. He said, "I had to report it. It looks like something.”
At that point, I said, “If you put it that way, that’s fine. But I want this to be fixed.” So, he took it apart, took it to his car and then he returned and said, “I cannot take it because my company had to report to AHS and to see if they cover.” It’s covered and I called the boss of the contractor and he told me, “No problem. We just need to report it like that.” A few hours later, I received a call from AHS saying that the work was not covered and the contract. I complained and they sent me the second opinion. When the guy came, I asked him, “What do you think?” “Oh, this happens.” The second guy did a good job and he fixed it. It took a few days because they had to order the part. The guy came with the part and it was a great job.

We moved in a month ago and noticed a kitchen faucet leaking as soon as we purchased the house. We filed a claim with American Home Shield online which was an easy process. However, their phone call wait times were long. When I had to reschedule the plumber timing, it took me 45 minutes on call. The contractors showed up within two weeks and were easy to work with. They were able to fix the faucet and now, it's working well now.

The hot water tank had been in the house for awhile. It had a bad odor like sulfur or rotten egg, but the only time we smelled it was when we used the hot water. I had to wait on hold for about an hour when I submitted the claim, but I finally got through and the reps were very professional. They helped me get my problem solved and knew exactly who to call. They were able to send the contractor out the next day and the repair took about three hours. The contractor explained everything and they didn’t leave me standing and guessing what was going on. Since the repair, my tank has been better than before. Everything's good with American Home Shield. They get things done and I've recommended them.

I've done my homework as far as choosing the companies. I went by what I read online. There's always going to be someone not satisfied. What matters is what do they do about it. How they address it. How do they take care of it or did they just leave it hanging? Based on that, I went with American Home Shield. I recently filed a claim for the AC. The coil was leaking as I was told by the previous technician. I wanted to get it fixed and taken care of. It was a clear three-way communication working with three schedules, most of it the tenant's, technician's and mine. My tenant couldn't meet on a particular day and I worked it out with the technician with his schedule. Everything worked out so I'm very pleased. Through text message the contractor told me that he was coming soon and I communicated with my tenant.
The technician was pretty quick. It's not a small job because everything had to be done per code and it was done in 2 hrs. But then I was surprised by the cost. I wasn't expecting a cheap job. I was surprised that they had to charge for the Freon. But, other than that it's okay. It's warrantied. I hope I don't have to address it in the next couple of years.

I didn’t have any power on the wall in my office that has my computer and my fax machine plugged into. I filed a claim for it over the phone at 6:00 am. The person I talked to was very kind and I was happy. The only thing that makes me unhappy is having to wait for a huge amount of time (half an hour). They sent out an electrician and he found that the socket was loose, and he got that fixed and everything came back on. I’m pleased with the service and I’d recommend American Home Shield.

My garage door wouldn’t close all the way. It was nerve-racking because I had to manually push it down with my feet. I contacted American Home Shield online and it was pretty easy. It turned out the springs were broken and the technician had to replace the springs to fix it. Overall, the service was good. Customer service is great with the technician and they are very professional.

We had some issues with the hot water heater in December and we filed a claim for it online. I discovered a big, giant leak late at night after closing around 11:00 o’clock when it flooded the garage. Everything took so long to get straightened out and we went for two weeks without hot water. The contractor didn’t call me so I had to call them, but they were very nice after. And then I was totally unaware that there are a lot of other stuff like the tubes that go to the hot water heater are not covered by American Home Shield, and they are so expensive. I understood in the contract that it was covered, but apparently not and it came up to around $400. That should be clarified. Other than that, the water heater was very efficient once we got the date and everything settled and paid for. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. They’re good and I really appreciate the service.

The last experience I had with American Home Shield has not been a pleasant one. We still have problems with the furnace. I'm not happy with it because it would take a couple of days just to get through. It’s really hard to get through AHS but once I do, the customer service is great. I’m having issues with the contractor that’s actually doing the service. They tried to fix the furnace about three times and it’s still pending. I had to call to find out what was going on, spinning round and round, back and forth.
The third individual that came out wanted to take care of the furnace before Christmas which I appreciate because the weather had been extremely cold, so it was a little bit hard to be without a furnace. They came before Christmas, around the 21st, and they said that they had to order some parts and because of the holidays the business might be closed. This was not a problem but then Christmas has gone by and I’ve been meaning to get a courtesy call back from the contractor asking what the status was. I tried to call back a week later and left a message but I never got a call back. This is very frustrating especially when I have an emergency like that and this has been happening since before Christmas. It's to the point where I have other home insurance that are actually offering me their services, so I want it to get done and see if I can switch over to another business that’s also providing appliance insurance.

I've had the American Home Shield since I moved here close to 10 years ago and anytime I've had a claim nothing was covered or the technicians' hands were tied. The technicians had to do some little teeny fix on the water heater because that was all that was allowed. The water heater was three-fourths full of sediment and when they came out they bled it out. But they couldn't get the sediment out and the hot water would leak once it gets too full. They told me it was going to not run efficiently and I'm going to need it fixed again. The unit should've been replaced. So I had to buy a new water heater. That also happened with my washer and my dryer.
When my bathroom had leakage I told the plumber the ceiling needed to be replaced but he said no so now I have damage in my kitchen ceiling. So I'm not happy with American Home Shield. With the issue with the toilet, I had someone come out twice and I told American Home Shield I did not want the same contractor. The guy who was just out now was fabulous and he apologized. It was probably going to be a thousand-dollar repair but I can't afford that just to fix a bathroom sink so he took his own time to show me how I would be able to possibly do it myself. He was phenomenal but on AHS' end, the part that they're supposed to do seems hasty now.
It's almost like they find some loophole so they don't have to pay for the repair. Then they would say I could've added that. But no one tells you that until it's too late. The warranty has a purpose but I'm to a point where I should just self-insure to save money. I'm considering canceling it and for people with mechanical skills or a how-to book they should put their $75 a month in a bank and then for the things they can't do they can pay for a repairman.

I've been a customer for years. This is a "home" warranty. My home is running 24/7. Every time something breaks it is not "business" hours. Last night a Friday night...the coldest night of the year so far...my heater stops working. AHS assigns a service outfit that only operates during normal business hours. My home that runs 24/7 needs to get by till Monday, at the earliest, to just have a tech even set to come out. This happened before with my air conditioning in the summer. The company that serviced my a/c sent a couple criminals to my house. In the end if you offer a "home" warranty...then offer "home" hours of service. Not business hours service. And how about respectable representatives that come to your home. If the a/c and heater were not cold I would have dropped this clown outfit a long time ago!

I scheduled a service for a ceiling A/C unit through the AHS website. The contractor (MS SERVICES INC) promptly called to inform me that they do not work on ceiling units and that they would close the request. Called AHS, waited for 65 minutes on the phone, spoke to someone to explain the situation and asked to be assigned another contractor. The rep said that she would take care of this. A few hours later, checked my AHS account online to find out that I was assigned to the same contractor. Called AHS again, waited for another 60 minutes. The rep took another 15 minutes reviewing the notes and 5 minutes listening to me explaining the situation, she still did not understand what was going on.
Luckily MS SERVICES INC called me while I was on the phone with AHS and after a 3-way conversation the rep was able to figure out the situation. She said I was going to be assigned to another contractor. The next contractor was JS HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING. They were prompt to call back as well. They showed up at the scheduled time and also stated that they did not work on these units. I called AHS for a third time, waited for 40 minutes, talked to someone and she said she would need to confirm with JS HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING that they cannot fix the problem. After that, she said she would assign me to another contractor and call me.
Fast forward 1 week. I still have not been contact by AHS about the next steps. I called them this morning. After 25 mins on the phone waiting to talk to someone, the call got disconnected. No one called back so I called back I am waiting to speak with someone again right now. 40 minutes and counting. In summary, I suppose if you are lucky and do not run into any trouble with getting the right contractor the first time, you may get your issue fixed. But if you have to talk with AHS (which you will probably need to), you will have to deal with very unhelpful reps after having to wait 60+ minutes at a time to talk to someone.
They also have a chat option on their website but I have not seen it work so far. This company would definitely do a service to their customers if they had a callback option. It "feels" like they want to minimize calls by making people wait. I will not renew my contract with them after it expires, unless I can cancel it, which would be my preference.

I had home warranties with American Home Shield for many years when I owned rental properties and was pleased with the ease of contacting Customer Service. This is the third attempt in 24 hours to reach a customer service rep only to be placed on hold for at least one hour before I hang up or being disconnected. This is unacceptable. The problem I am having is with a work order in process. The contractor arrived to service a leaking dishwasher and repair a gas cooktop. The cooktop was successfully repaired but the dishwasher will require a return trip after additional parts are received.
The contractor charged me for this service call, $75.00 plus tax, which totaled $81.08 and I paid it with a credit card. Another thing that surprised me was being taxed on labor. After looking at my AHS Service Request printout after the contractor left, I realized he should not have charged me as I had already paid the $75.00 service fee to AHS when I initiated the Service Request. Please advise how to reverse the contractor's charge to my credit card. Thank you.

American Home Shield has been fantastic with me. They have been easy to deal with and got technicians out right away. With my most recent claim, the contractor came out, looked at my issue and explained everything to me. It took a day or two before he got the okay for it and then it went fine. But we couldn't get ahold of American Home Shield for several days and their website kept kicking me off. They might be having computer problems at the time. It kept telling me I couldn't find the website. The repair people told me the same thing. He tried getting through American Home Shield but he couldn't either. But it turned out okay. It just took a couple of days extra, which was no big deal.
I had plumbers come out about 10 years ago and they tried to gouge me with everything about the hot water heater. So I just did it myself and then I requested A1 Plumbing to be the only one that American Home Shield send out here when I have a problem. Other than that, there’s been no big problem at all. And I have no problem recommending American Home Shield to anybody.

We recently had leaks in the pipes for the pool pump so we filed a claim to AHS online and the process was easy. The contractor they sent was okay. We had them before once, two years ago when we had a sprinkler head that was broken. I came back from vacation and I had an $800 water bill. They did fine there. Six months ago, we had a problem with the plumbing in the pool. They came that time and were supposed to call me when they got here, but I never got a call. Then this time, we were going out of town too. They came but then they had to order a part. Then, they broke something, but they fixed it. The repair just took a little bit longer than what I had imagined and they got everything fixed. They're not as communicative as other companies that we've had, but they're good and they were very nice.
The first year that we had used AHS, we had a bunch of air conditioning problems. The company that they had was not very good, but they've since then gotten rid of them, which is good because the most recent ones were great. We’ve finally got everything all fixed and everything's working well. When you have a problem and the company comes out to fix it, and if a couple of weeks later the problem is still there and you resubmit it, there's never any extra charge. They just make the contractor come back out. It's great to have AHS and we recommended it to our family in Indiana. It’s really nice to be able to have this kind of a warranty with your own stuff when you move into a house.

This has been one of the worst consumer experiences of my life. You CANNOT talk to human being as the wait times are OVER AN HOUR! My garage door jammed and since I didn't want to wait an hour on the phone, I requested service via voicemail which means you have to wait to find out who your service person is and cannot contact them right away. By the time I received confirmation, they were closed - their voicemail saying the earliest they could be out for new appointments was Monday! This was on Wednesday - my car was going to be stuck in the garage for 6 day!?
Are you kidding? I went through the 'trying to get a human on the phone' again, almost a hour-punching all the numbers on the voicemail. Finally got through to Alisa and said I wanted to cancel my contract and not to charge the $100 service fee I had prepaid. She said she would but that someone had to call me to confirm the cancellation of the contract. NO ONE did!
I had asked Alisa for a direct number to her - it was just the same old 'wait an hour' voicemail! So I had to go through this horror all over again. After nearly another hour, got Jackie who said she would cancel my contract and the $100 service fee. (Good luck). I asked if she had a direct line and that I could not find an email link on the American Home Shield site. She says there are none! All other sites have them! When I complained about the wait times etc., she said they were "aware of the problems". Really? Then DO something about them. I don't see how they stay in business. On Thursday morning I called my local garage door company and they were out within 3 hours and fixed it for less than $100. No should have to spend this much time and aggravation to get service! BUYER BEWARE - STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!

Our microwave quit working on Tuesday so we completed the online request and were told that a local technician would call us within 24 hours. After 24 hours we had not received a call so my wife tried to call AHS and sat on hold for over an hour without an answer. She finally had to call the local company herself who said they had just received the request from AHS. Keep in mind that AHS had no problem taking our deductible from our account the night we called but not much interest in making sure we received a call from the repair company. Two days later, the technician showed up and attempted to fix the problem. He was very polite and tried several things but was unable to fix the appliance. The technician then attempted to call AHS from my residence to request further approval to fix our microwave but even he was unable to get an answer. He sat at my house on hold for over 45 minutes.
Finally he said he would just have to get back with us and left without providing us any solution or time frame. So now, my microwave is still broken, AHS will not answer our phone calls and we can't use our appliance. I will be ending my service once this issue is fixed if I can ever get someone to actually answer the phone. AHS is possibly the worst company I have ever dealt with in my 67 years on this planet. I bought an AHS warranty on the advice of my realtor when I bought my home in Florida. A few months after moving in I received a $350 power bill that should have been no more than $125. AHS sent Total Air care to fix it. $75 thank you very much. That was late Feb. I then went on a 6 month trip in my RV and returned home the first week in Sept. and quickly found that my AC could not keep my home cool even though it ran 24/7 and I got another $350 power bill. AHS sent Total Air care (again). After another $75 it again was fixed, for about 10 days when I realized it was again on the fritz and I got another $300+ power bill and Total Air came and fixed it again, that was early Nov.
Late November we got a cold snap and I spent the whole weekend in my home with the temp around 50* because AHS or Total Air does not answer the phone on weekends. Now the first week in Jan the unit is running 24/7. Can't get the temp in my home above 65* unless it is a sunny day. I am telling AHS it is time to replace this unit. They say, “No.” Now I am forced to go to small claims court the get satisfaction. Do yourself a favor. Do not do business with AHS.
Updated on 02/09/2018: My heat pump has not worked for 6 months now. AHS has sent out their repair company, Total Air Care, (another loser of a company) more than 9 times in 2 months. It is always working when they leave, SOMETIMES it even works more than 10 minutes, but not usually!! AHS says they will replace the unit. All they need is for the repair company to recommend that in their report. LOL. Total Air says "they would NEVER do that, they get paid for fixing them." I have had 4 power bills more than $350, should be no more than $100-$125, I have had many days with the temp in my home above 87*. The thing just keeps running and NOTHING comes out the vents, I have had more than 6 nights with the temp in my home below 50*. AHS DOES NOT CARE about any of this.
FINALLY AHS calls me 2 weeks ago to say they were working on a buyout for me. I say, "GREAT," I know I will be way ahead with a new unit, so to be fair, I don't mind kicking in some cash. They say they are sending a different contractor to give them a second opinion. So this guy comes out and after a good laugh, says, "It would be waste of time and money to try to fix this thing, you could get it running but 10 minutes it would be something else." Tell me something I don't know!! So a few days later AHS calls me and says they are working on a buyout and they would call me back that afternoon or the next to tell me the amount they would pay.
I wait 3 days, nothing. I call them, wait the usual 1 hour on the phone for them to pick up the phone, and they say the company THEY sent to do the second opinion is NOT qualified to do that!! There would be no buyout because the ONLY contractor in my area is (guess who) Total Air!! They have been here another 3 time since then. They were here 4 days ago, and it worked for 24 hours then quit. They are coming AGAIN today!! PLEASE, PLEASE, There are other warranty companies out there, spend your money with them NOT AHS!!! AHS is a complete waste of time and money and, I think, a SCAM!! The only thing AHS is good at is taking your money and giving NOTHING in return!!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

He walked me through step by step on what the problem was and spoke in simple layman’s terms, so I understood it. It turned out that the major water leakage was from the city’s end, but the repair slowed down the problem and everything went great. The guy did his job and I’d use him again. My neighbors had the same issue and they used other people and they got taken to the cleaners. But since then, one of them already asked me to recommend American Home Shield and they should be signing up before the week.

The ice would not fall out from the automatic ice maker in the refrigerator, and we got a hum whenever we push. We filed a claim over the phone and had an AHS representative in less than five minutes. My wife spoke to them and everything went smoothly. A man came out, replaced the part and the ice maker was working fine. I’ve also had an experience where the microwave tube did not work so the technician told us to have the microwave and oven replaced. American Home Shield called and told us to go the GE online. They gave us the model number and see if the comparable agrees with us. And if not, we could look for what we want and we pay the difference.
We looked at it and we said it was fine so I called them right back. AHS shipped the new unit but the people who brought it were supposed to install it too. They were installation technicians but they didn’t know how to install it. So, we called AHS and they told us that they’ll find somebody. After a couple of weeks, they couldn’t find anybody else and AHS sent us a check and said we were on our own. We called a local appliance company in town and the technician came out. We paid him a few dollars more than what AHS gave us.
We’ve also had a very dissatisfying experience when we got the pool coverage. Our in-ground spa was not working so we called to put in a claim. AHS sent a man who was 80 miles away from here. He came in about 4:30 and checked hurriedly. He told us the problem was underground and that AHS didn’t cover it. He also said that he’d talk to AHS. Then, AHS called us back two days later and told us that it wasn’t indeed covered so I called a local pool person who told us that the problem wasn’t underground. I thought that maybe the guy didn’t want to drive 80 miles back. So, I got the pool fixed, and it cost me $300 to have somebody else come out here and do it. So, I called AHS and told them I would challenge that. It was very discouraging that it was the integrity of that particular person they had sent out.
I also had another thing when the heating and air conditioning went on the blink so the man came out and told us that there were some worn out things and it will cost us $1,300 to replace the parts. I bought the house four months ago, but the air conditioning system is over 15 years old. The technician told us that we have to have an HVAC maintenance as AHS will deny a claim if anything goes wrong because we didn’t have the maintenance contract. I told them to go ahead and put in a new system as they said I needed it. And they paid $1,300 towards the $5,500 HVAC system.

I went to AHS online and filed a claim for a plumbing issue. AHS sent me an email and they called as well to tell me who they had assigned it to. They followed up and ensured the time that the company would be calling me directly and setting up the appointment. The contractor was very thorough, explained the situation and told me a couple of things like how to avoid the problem in the future.

The service provider however never called (within 24 hrs especially as advertised) and tried to get help from AHS to get my heater fixed. Still waiting. Was on hold yesterday for 1.5 hours before hanging up and today almost the same. There needs to be a way to chat or alternative method of contact when the real feel temperature is -2 degrees and you need something fixed. It's been over a week since the request was submitted. However, AHS has failed to provided service at my residence or escalated the issue as needed. Due my residence having a water drainage/stoppage issue and paired with the sub freezing temperatures in the area. I’ve been calling American Home Shield ALL day today but the telephone wait is over 1 hour. That’s insane. After this is settled I will be seeking another home warranty company.

I signed up with AHS in August. My first time to request service was this past Monday. I logged into my account, selected service for my dishwasher. They assigned one contractor, but then called to say that that contractor did not service my brand of dishwasher and they were assigning a new contractor. The new contractor did not contact me within the 24 hour window, so I called them directly yesterday, Wednesday. They were not able to come out until the following week on Tuesday.
I called AHS back to see if they had another contractor available. She said that they would have to "cancel with the other contractor" in order to schedule with a new one. I asked her not to cancel until she found someone else. They have already charged me $120 for the service call that isn't even happening. She canceled. I have not received word of a new service company coming. The wait on the phone is "in excess of one hour." They do not have a chat resource available. And the WORST part... Now somehow they do not have an option for me to even request service for my dishwasher. Did they take it off my contract? I can't get ahold of anyone. Terrible customer service.

Trying to call led to a hilariously long multi hour holds, and random disconnects. The only way I got through was when I submitted a duplicate request online, and they called to confirm my payment information. Seriously do not use this company. Thurs Dec 28 I came home from hospital and found I had no heat. Called AHS and asked for repair. This furnace has been fixed twice in Sept 2017 but I was told the part was out of warranty. The next day a repairman came out and said I need a new furnace. Before he left my home he contacted AHS and made a request for new furnace. I called him Tues and he still had not heard from AHS. I am in hotel costing us money and still no resolution to request. I called a local repairman and he is going to try and get us heat today. Now we have frozen pipes upstairs. Yesterday I was on hold to AHS for 1 hr 20 min. So far today almost 2 hrs. Am disgusted and plan on cancelling my agreement but I have already paid for serviceman and they took monthly installment out of my card today. I had service on my microwave a few months ago and it was 6 weeks before I got a microwave. Very unhappy with AHS.
Updated on 02/26/18: I first submitted a complaint on Jan 3, 2018 to ConsumerAffairs which I did get a response from AHS. However since then it is very difficult to get in touch with them. You could spend 2 hours on hold waiting for someone to answer. Finally I spoke to someone, not Stacy **, who was the one that responded to my email. Was advised to fax furnace bill and hotel bill to her and did so on Feb 1, 2018. Have not heard since from her.
I have called everyday this week and left messages and emailed her one day to try and get the money for the furnace that was promised. Yesterday I finally got someone who answered the phone and she said Stacy was not in her office but she would have her call me back. No call back came. I am angry because you call and either get no one to answer or you are on hold for hours. I had to spend three days in hotel because of the cold weather and no heat. She was to try and get some of the hotel bill to be paid by AHS. We need to pay for furnace and need to have the 900.00 dollars that was promised from AHS to help pay for furnace.

The contractor that American Home Shield sent for a water heater issue over-exaggerated what it would cost to put in some type of air thing that the state required to put in. He stated it would take about $900. So, I called up another certified plumber that I knew and he said he’d do it for $400. So I just did a cashout with AHS and had the other plumber install it and didn't use the one that AHS recommended. The cashout that they gave to replace my water heater, though, was a little low. The same water heater that I want to place (50 gallons) will cost about $620 but the cashout was probably $90 lower than the cheapest one that I could have gotten that has a 12-year warranty. Still, I had three people who got AHS because I recommended it to them.

It's convenient, quick and easy. I get an email within the next 15 minutes after filing my claim. Moreover, the contractors that they've been sending have been good and they let me know when they're on their way. Our last claim was when a fuse went out in our dryer. The repairman they sent did a great job and the dryer is working. I'd recommend AHS and I've already recommended them to one of my coworkers.

American Home Shield primarily provides service for my 20-year old furnace which I have the most issue with. When I submit my claim to them, the person who answers the phone is always more than helpful and very knowledgeable of the basic questions that I have. However, the contractors are a hit or miss and they just pick and choose a variety of people. I had one incident that went on for two months before they got me a good person in, and I called for my dryer a couple of times and had random people as well. Sometimes, the contractors also come in from a distance to my home but there are several in the area that's on their service.
Also, the technician didn’t do anything when they came last time to repair the furnace. The furnace doesn’t immediately get hot or cold and it typically happens over two hours, so by the time the technician leaves, he doesn’t know if it’s working or not especially for the distribution of heat which is the case that I had. I went down myself, played with and adjusted the dampers in the vent, and was able to get it to distribute accordingly. So, I called them back and told them they didn't need to come out.
But what concerns me is that at what point will they stop putting band-aid services on my furnace and tell me that I can replace it, or if I will keep spending $100 for them to send service people out. They replaced a washer that I had but the only reason they did was because I would do a sell-off and split. They also had no choice but to replace it because they couldn't put the door back. On the other hand, they are very responsive, have a great service, and they work to give a technician out quickly. I feel good overall and I will definitely recommend them.

However, the first plumber who came out was not able to open the access line to snake the clog properly and did a secondary option which did not solve the problem as well. So our landlady called in a second plumber who came and fixed the problem which was great, but AHS decided to charge two service fees for the two different calls. They agreed to clear out the additional service if the second plumber was able to come to a different conclusion which they did. But the second plumber failed to send in their diagnosis to AHS, but they claimed they did it several times. We recently had a circuit board problem. My wife submitted a claim online and it was easy but calling AHS was pretty bad. It took 45 minutes to an hour. When I call American Home Shield for a claim, I need to be sitting in front of a TV and put the phone on speaker phone all the time. The contractor that we had the last time seemed to be knowledgeable and knew what he was talking and doing. And on that particular problem, he realized that it wasn’t a circuit board but it was the breaker. I thought that was a pretty good catch because he could’ve easily said it was a circuit board and charged AHS for the circuit board. We didn’t go any further and he diagnosed it correctly but I fixed it.
We have been dealing with American Home Shield for a long time that I have my mom’s and my home at one time. The only thing I didn’t like with AHS is they hire cheap contractors and we got what we paid for. The last time we had a problem with the electrical of the dryer, it was absolutely terrible and Ben’s Electrical did not figure out the problem. We told him that we thought it was an electrical problem, so he checked it and said everything was okay. We already had an electrical board go out on us a while back so when we called the dryer guy up months later, the dryer guy says that this problem has happened over and over and it was too coincidental. It was the electrical going to the circuit board. So, Ben couldn’t figure it out but the dryer repair guy did.
Now, if we have to call someone for electrical, we don’t even want to call AHS because Ben’s Electrical didn’t know what they were doing. I felt that Ben was out there for the $75 deductible even though he didn’t fix any work for us before. I still got a plug at my house that doesn’t work and that he allegedly fixed. But now, AHS has been sending better contractors. I liked the new contractor we used for the air conditioning because if the same repair person comes out more than once, he knows what’s going on. I’m satisfied and the $75 a month is not a bad deal as all the stuff has been covered. AHS replaced a dryer, dishwasher and an ice maker in my refrigerator. I recommend them all the time.

He turned around, told me what the problem was and said the refrigerator might have had to be replaced but these motherboards started being remade. He had to shut the whole thing down, order a motherboard and he said I should have it within 2 weeks but it only took 10 days. He called, made an appointment, came out and slapped it in. A couple of hours later he was gone and the refrigerator is great. He cleaned up and he was terrific.
I submitted the claim online and the site was good. Sometimes I'm not near a computer and my wife doesn't like to handle things like that so I have to handle all the garbage. I'm a telephone guy but I'll go online and do more. I got tired of being put on hold forever. They should have a little better customer service response time on the phone. The wait time on the phone is horrific and that's my biggest complaint. I've had the opportunity to move to other warranty companies and I have not done that because I like American Home Shield. I've been with them for a long time and I'm getting ready to get my oldest daughter a gift of home warranty. I'll be contacting them through the internet.

My house is only seven years old and I've had a lot of problems with my appliances this year, and I sure am glad I had American Home Shield’s insurance. Their customer service is fine but it's not super. They should not have their customers on hold for an hour or more. When a gentleman called me to renew my contract in November, I honestly was not going to renew it because I could never get ahold of them. But the supervisor that I had for a microwave issue was fabulous. She solved all my problems and reduced the price that I had to pay. However, they’ve billed me twice erroneously. First was when I already paid and the second time was when I got a $75 gift certificate for my next repair.
The most recent claim I had was for my refrigerator and it was not finished. The contractor has been out four times and they still need to come out one more time. They brought a seal but it wouldn't work three times. However, it was not their fault because they worked hard on getting a seal but every seal that they ordered was like folded up and had creases in it so they couldn’t get it on smoothly enough to seal the refrigerator. They got one that didn’t have any wrinkles on it but it’s still not sealing right so I have to call AHS about that. They also fixed my ice maker, but they didn't replace the bottom part where you'd push the button and ice come out. It still doesn't work and they've never made an appointment to come out and change it.
Unfortunately, I've had that problem with almost every single person who had come to my house. AHS had one air conditioning company come out twice. The company that came out told me that they could not come out again because they lost their license so AHS had to get another company. Also, the plumbers had to come back around three times. The electrical people also came out twice. It's like there's never anything fixed on the first try and I had to make arrangements to be home so they can come back out. I have a lot of appointments with the doctors and I have to rearrange my whole schedule to make sure that I get something fixed. Other than those, AHS has been very helpful and I haven't had any problems with them not replacing something that was broken or approving whatever repair work needs to be done. They're very good about that.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the wait time was horrible. Anytime you have to wait on the phone over 15 minutes is long for me, but I went 45 minutes and it was ridiculous. They hang up and then they do an hour, sometimes they hang up and try to do a callback. They need to hire some more people. I got a lady now who's waiting on American Home Shield. She just moved here from out of town and she hadn't gotten service. She's been calling for service but she hadn't gotten it. And she said, she had wait times hours too long.
Their staff was professional and they treated me okay, especially the ladies from Tennessee. However, I wasn’t happy with the contractor that they sent out here. He wasn't the best and wasn't professional at all. He came to my house was delayed. He was very incompetent and unknowledgeable. When he came out here, he said, "I don't have equipment with me that I need. All I have is an old thermostat." I said, "Why don't you go get a new one?" And he said, "I don't have any money." It’s 10 degrees outdoors and I have to wait. He said that I needed a new thermostat, which I still do not have. When he came here the second time, he still was unprofessional.
I asked the AHS rep, “Who can you send out here to check out to make sure your thing is okay?” And she said, "They'll probably send him." I said, "I hope not. And do I have to pay another fee?” She wasn't sure. But I need someone to come out here because when you cut the furnace down, it'll get hot in the house to a certain temperature. The three young men that came after were okay, but I don't consider the heating issue as working properly and I don't want to have to pay another fee. I tried to deal with these four contractors out to my house in one week. American Home Shield needs to get rid of them or hire somebody else. I got another man fixing my doorknob but I didn't call American Home Shield because I didn't want to go through any more hassle. American Home Shield is decent with me, but that was the worst experience I've ever had with them.
When the rep called back, sent me an email and told me that I owe them money, I told them I had paid. And then they kept calling me and they sent me another letter so I paid them. And then when she finally got it straight down until it was paid, I said, “Did you send me a letter and tell me it's been paid?” She said, "No, we don't send out letters.” But the lady from Tennessee called and let me know that the tech had verified that he had encashed the check. Then I sent my bank statement part of that cut out to let them know that the tech had cash to check. They said it's resolved and that I may get another letter stating that they take two or three weeks to get it out straight down. I don't know why it would.
They also told me I’d be getting another letter sent that I owe them. I said, "I hope not because I paid the whole thing before.” They got my check November and it is almost January. They also won't even answer the phone for a long time. The techs left some of their equipment out here and I called before the techs got around the corner but they didn't answer. I let them know that the techs left their equipment here but the techs never came back and picked it up.

When I was having a problem with my thermostat not working properly, I submitted a claim through a phone call with AHS. It was very easy and simple. I explained a little bit what was going on and what appliance I was calling about. Their customer service side was very good and easy to deal with. Their people were prompt, came out, did what they were supposed to do and took care of what needed to be done. They were able to do their process then the contractor called me back within 24 hours and set up an appointment. When he came out, he looked at my thermostat, explained, and did some adjustments on some part of the sealant that makes it come on. And now it seems to be working much better than it was.

AHS solves the problem. When our stove was acting up, a technician came but he couldn’t fix it. He said the parts were bad and they didn’t make the parts anymore. He turned it over to American Home Shield to let them know. It was three days since they called and AHS sent somebody to replace the part which worked perfectly. The guys were really nice. They had a rope that they put down. They even leveled the stove and put the rack in it. The stove works well now and everything was great.

I went online to file a claim to American Home Shield for my heater. It took them the next day to respond and the contractor came out the following day. He was very knowledgeable and he fixed it. I was pleased because I’ve not really had that much luck with American Home Shield on other claims. I think that they look for a reason not to go ahead and fix it. And if I say I got an issue with the air conditioner but it’s not heating or cooling, they’ll only address one thing on it and then they’ll say no. It was missing a part or it was installed incorrectly or to bring back and fix that which is typically frustrating.
I’ve put in three claims and this was my fourth claim. I pay $75 every time I put a claim in and they said that they could not do anything to help me with the three previous claims I had. I told them we bought a house which was 23 years old and the air conditioning unit had been the same unit. They said they would never repair anything on this unit because of its age. Out of the years that I’ve tried to use AHS, I only had one successful time.
I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience to have repairs completed through your warranty.

I have two homes with American Home Shield. I have one in Beverly Hills and one in Rancho Mirage. When my pool man told me I was in need of new heater, I called AHS to get a second opinion. The only problem is getting through to them. The wait time takes forever. I spoke to a representative since I hate the automated calls. The guy who came out was very knowledgeable, he did a really good job and said my heater was fine. It was just an old equipment.

When the contractor AHS sent came, we talked about the ice machine. They were working on a dryer and an ice maker. The guy was polite. His own deal was he was not qualified to work on the ice machine. There are two different types of ice machines and he didn’t have the qualification to work on this one so they actually sent another guy yesterday to us. They claimed that it was fixed but it is not fixed. It’s not making ice at all and the water constantly runs in there. But the dryer guy was a nice guy and they are from the same company called Paul’s Appliance. We also had a claim for a piece of pool equipment, and the pool company was fine. They came out here and knew exactly what was going on, fixed the problem and it was solved within 24 hours.

We had an oven door that would not open so I tried to contact American Home Shield but I had to wait over an hour to reach them which was ridiculous. I gave up and I tried to do it online but I couldn’t express myself properly. Then, American Home Shield assigned an appliance company which I did not want because I've had them before and they were terrible. I wanted to have another appliance company but again, I had to wait an hour and a half for a call. I've been frustrated and it's not conducive for a good relationship with them.
I called the appliance company and it took me almost an hour to reach them only to find out that they could not service my appliance for at least one week. The tech who came was very personable and very good. The latest claim I had, I was able to get through the operator and request another appliance company who came out to do some work and was very good.
I'm unhappy with AHS' telephone answering procedure but I haven’t quit on them. They should hire or engage more people to answer their telephones so the services would be improved instead of having to wait such a long time to get them on the phone and then, similarly, to wait an incredibly long time to get their contractor they're referring to complete the job.

I’ve had American Home Shield for many years now, and I’m possibly quitting them. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield's website in mid October 2017. Once we set the date, the contractor arrived on time. He was not able to fix my washer. He had to order some parts. The parts arrived after three weeks. The contractor came back and replaced the parts. However, most of the settings on the control panel are not in sync and others don't work. It was already mid November, I called AHS again to report the status on my washer and, after 2 hours or so of waiting on the phone, they assigned a different contractor.
The story starts one more time. He arrived on time at the end of November. He was not able to fix my washer since the parts that were replaced initially were defective and he had to order them again. I have been calling the contractor and AHS every week to find out when they are going to fix my washer and I always receive the same answer “the part doesn't arrive and we have to wait”. It is January 2nd 2018 and I am still with no washer. That is beyond of so unacceptable. I am trying to contact AHS today and I am on the line for 2 hours now waiting for a representative to assist me.

Our refrigerator went down on 12/22. AHS dispatched a repairman who showed up without the correct tools. He promised to return on 12/26. We didn't hear from the company until 12/28 when they said they couldn't return until 1/3. I spent 56 minutes on hold with AHS until I could speak with someone (they have no way to email them). Another company was dispatched who quickly diagnosed the problem and informed us the cost of a repair was greater than the value of the refrigerator, and they would have to communicate with AHS as to the next action taken. Today, five days later the AHS website instructed me to call the repair company to schedule an appointment. When I did I was told AHS was looking for a part to repair the fridge. I then spent 2 hours and 25 minutes on hold with AHS without being able to speak with anyone. We have been without a refrigerator for 11 days now.

It has been 2 weeks now. The technician came and didn't even bother to open the microwave. Just "listened". For that I paid ALREADY $125. The microwave is not fixed. I tried to call the company probably hundreds of times- never was able to get through. This is my 3rd attempt calling AHS. The previous times I got very generic replies ("Oh! don't worry, it will be fixed! Oh, we are so sorry, we certainly understand").
I specifically requested to call me back with updates- nobody bothered. First time I waited 45 minutes on the line, second ~ 40min. Now I am still waiting- 2 hours!!! Nobody replies and I am waiting on the line for 2 hours now!!! It is a ridiculous service for such a simple appliance. I have probably covered 50% of a new microwave only paying for the service call, for service I still haven't received. It should have been either fixed or replaced by now. I was ALL the holidays with kids at home without microwave. Horrible service, a nightmare, literally... I expected a much better one when I signed up.

I have called AHS about 12 times for either a question, or to inquire about getting service. Regardless of the day; regardless of the time; the wait time to talk to a "live" person on the phone is ALWAYS over an hour. ALWAYS. How can this be? On the flipside; here's a funny story. When calling for service today, I entered my number when prompted for a "call back for assistance." I got a call back in less than 5 minutes!!
Of course, the person who called me was only able to SELL me a contract, or sign me up!!! When I told him I needed assistance, he tried to give me the Customer Service number; which of course means I would have to call them and wait ANOTHER on the phone. When I asked him to have Customer Service "call me back" as per the option I choose; he said he could not! AHS is only allowed to "call out" when they are seeking a sale or a new customer. If you are a current customer and want them to call you back or help you, you are S.O.L. I can't wait when they call me back and ask me to renew when my policy expires!! No way Jose.

Worst experience ever! I have been with AHS for a few years, as a new homeowner the idea of having appliances covered by a warranty on an older home sounds amazing. Though when a few years go by and the water heater stops working you think, "Wow, it’s a good time to call that in." The contractor shows up gives it a look and then says it needs to be replaced. A sigh of relief, I am covered since I have a warranty… Oh wait. There are uncovered expenses the contractor tells me, it will be about $500 out of pocket, but he will have to get with AHS to report it first. Sure enough I get a call from authorizations and they break it down. We have authorized the replacement of your water heater though there are some uncovered costs. A disposal fee = $60, a pipe modification = $250, code enforcement items $60 for a drain pan, and $60 for a shutoff valve upgrade, and $100 to pull a permit.
When I saw reference to code enforcement, I call my county building inspector 1st to ensure this contractor is able to pull a permit in my county, and secondly to get a confirmation of these required by code items. Summary of the code enforcement the drain pan is required if the water heater is on level elevation with the home, in my case the water heater is 8 inches below, so not required (plus I already have a pan, the contractor states it will be damaged when they remove it). 2nd the shutoff valve, to be in line with code it cannot be a ball valve, it must be a gate valve which resembles a spigot that would be found on outside water valves which I had. I call contractor. Dispute the need for the 2 code enforced items, as well as advise I don’t want THEM to dispose, and after researching the pipe modification he insisted was necessary.
Advised that water heaters pipes are 8 inches apart on every model he could possibly bring which matched my current water heater, confirmed with a few other plumbers that same fact though he would not budge on performing pipe mod or enforcing code… When I asked him to give me a reference # to the code he was attempting to enforce he told me to contact AHS and ask for a payoff instead of working with him. Informed AHS of this impasse with their contractor and they offered me $460 and change to go to another contractor, asked what the breakdown of that $460 was and they explained it was $530 minus $75 and then their calculations of non-retail rate for a water heater and the expected cost to get it replaced... WAIT what? Minus $75. You already took $75 for the service call for the guy to come and say he can’t fix it… Their response is that they have to pay that technician for his time and that is being deducted from my offer.
When I asked why don’t you use the $75 you took from my credit card to pay him instead of deducting from my cash out offer? "Oh that is just how we have always done it. We have to pay the contractor for their time since that is the law." I can’t argue paying him, but don’t take it away from the value of my cash out because he was unwilling to install a water heater without attempting to scam me out of nearly every line item in my contract that is an uncovered expense. If he would have repaired the water heater he would have been paid the money you deducted and that’s all, but now that they are cashing out because they only have that one scammer contractor to work with me and don’t want to send a proper working contractor that will get the job done without seeking to line their pockets beyond the covered items.
Now I have to wait for the dispute to their cash out offer to see where this goes. Oh and it’s not a real cash out… I have to find another contractor pay them to get the work done out of my pocket, then if AHS agrees in its completion and terms they will pay me what they have offered. Either way I lose more money than it would have costed to replace the water heater myself, or have a contractor replace it since I have been paying AHS to do business with them already and they want to back out at every angle they can now that something is needing to be replaced. Wonder how AHS will attempt to weasel me out of more money?!

I first called AHS about my 17-1/2 yr. old garage door opener not working. This was after it didn't work and then it did work and then didn't work. They contacted someone to come look at it and when they came told me they were told by AHS to fix it, not replace the old motor. I had to wait a week for a new "CB". This worked for 1 week only (to the day). I had to pull the red rope and disconnect from the motor to close the door manually. I called them again and when he came back and it hooked it back up, it started working again. The guy from the repair company told me that when a motor is dying, it will work and then not work. I know this is true because that is how other dying motors/batteries work. This can go on for some time. This is reason enough to go ahead and replace the motor. YOU CAN'T FIX A DYING MOTOR!!
After the new "CB" was installed and the garage door would not close again after 1 week and because when he came back and hooked it up to the motor, it started working again, nothing was done. One week later (to the day), it stopped working again. I called AHS again (one hour to get someone on the phone!!) and they said they would call the repair people. NO one called. I called the repair company direct and was told the last time they came, it was working. I told them it is not working now. I was told the repair guy would call me back but he didn't. Again I call AHS and it was well over an hour to get someone on the phone. The rep (Phyllis, I believe) called the repair company and said they would come Jan. 2nd. This means about another week without my garage door opener. I specifically asked the rep (Phyllis) what they will be doing when they come to my house and she said they WILL REPLACE THE MOTOR.
I said thank God! Today, Jan. 2nd, the repair guy said he was NOT told to replace the motor!!! I am DISGUSTED!!! He called AHS and they told him they did NOT tell me that he would replace the motor. THEY FLAT OUT LIED TO HIM!! OBVIOUSLY THEY HAD LIED TO ME TOO!! When he came today, he hooked it back up and it started working again so he can't do anything.
I am disgusted. It will happen again! I am trying to call AHS and of course, this lousy company takes forever to get through to them. What lies will they tell me now? At this point, I have paid my $80 copay and I have a garage door that only works off and on!!! This is one SCREWED UP CHEAP, RIPOFF BUSINESS!!! I told them I want my $80 copay back and my last premium. I was told I can't have my $80 back even though I have a garage door that only works parttime!!
SAVE YOUR MONEY people! Do not sign up with this ripoff company! I have been with them for yours. MAYBE, if you are lucky and if you are new to them and need their services, you will get good service in the beginning while they suck you in, but after that, FORGET IT!! I use to love AHS... but service has gotten horrible over the years. I'm sitting with an oven/stove that doesn't work for over 4 months. Contractor said he would come back with the part (haven't heard from him) and received notice from AHS that the repair was complete. Tech said part wasn't even available. Tried calling several times recently and sat on hold for over 45 minutes each before giving up (message said 10 minutes… but no answer). I waited on hold for AHS to answer for 1:30 minutes to check status of claim before hanging up. I called assigned plumber to check with them, to only get an answer machine. Suffice to say this arrangement is not working out for me. When something is broken, intentional effort to get it fixed expeditiously provides not only satisfied return customers; it provides peace of mind. I feel foolish for paying this much money for this long to have terrible execution on AHS's part. I feel AHS is too big and too profitable to care about their paying customers. Buyers beware!

On Thursday, December 28, 2017, we woke to no heat. Immediately called AHS to report problem, waited over hour before we spoke with someone. Told that a contractor had been assigned the problem & we would be getting a call from that local contractor - he paid the required service fee by credit card that day to AHS. Called back 5 hours later since the contractor had not called yet and was told that the contractor has 24 hours to contact us once case has been assigned but we could call him directly ourselves. We did just that but both the business # & cell phone # pushed us to voicemail with message that mailbox is full & then hung up on us. So on Friday, Dec 29, I tried AHS again but to no avail - my first call on hold for over 1.5 hours and just when it seemed like we were being connected to an operator the line was disconnected.
We called back & waited another 1.5 hours but still no luck. So on Saturday, Dec. 30, I called first thing in morning and waited 1/2 hour before I spoke with someone. They confirmed that the local contractor was unreachable and that they would kick this up the chain to locate another contractor. I got a return call on Saturday afternoon with a name & phone # of a new contractor but I would not be receiving any service before Tuesday since it was a weekend and a holiday. So, this morning (Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018), I called the new contractor and was told that they had received a request for service from AHS on Saturday around 11:30 am but that it was cancelled 30 minutes later by AHS. They told me I need to contact AHS to re-establish the service request in order for it to be covered under my warranty.
I am now on hold with AHS for over 1 hour so far this morning in a house that is about 55 degrees and outside temperatures are 22 degrees with a heating problem I have had for 6 days and yet to even have someone come to the house and even look at the problem. I have had my warranty coverage for over 10 years and am stunned and appalled at how this request has been handled!

Contacted AHS to see if I could be given a list of other local partners so I could have someone come out who does service over the weekend-no response from AHS. Contacted via Facebook and told them I needed this escalated and help getting another contractor out as I have water just leaking non stop, and no hot water if I turn off the water line. Was told my case would be escalated and someone would be contacting me. 3 days later I have not been contacted.
I logged in to check on my service request and found it was no longer there! So I resubmitted a request and now am assigned to yet another contractor who has yet to contact me. If I hadn’t checked on my service request nothing would have happened!! Unacceptable service-the last time I did not renew my warranty the AHS rep asked what they could do differently. THIS is what you can do differently! I still have not been contacted and am now going on day 5 with a broken water heater and no sign of an appointment in sight. Today I received a text that the contractor would call me in 24 hours to set appointment. Just logged in right now and now it says for ME to call the contractor-so which is it? I would have called them today!! Am I to log in every few minutes to see what I need to do to have this fixed? Disgraceful service and quite the runaround by a company I am paying to not have to deal with things like this.

I've had AHS since I bought my house in 2012. There were horrible things that happened in the house and they've always been great. Everyone was very professional and they have always taken care of the problem. I recently had an issue with the AC unit and their people came out and fixed it. Now the AC is working great and it’s very cold.
When I sold a house, the person who bought the house got a year of Home Shield due that sale. I also got a year of AHS in my new house and I've since now renewed it. But AHS never shut off the warranty on the other house, so I was paying for the warranty that the buyer of my old house already had. I paid that up until May of this year. It was hard to get through to someone at AHS about it and when I finally did, they told me to send them a closing statement of the house to prove that I had in fact closed on December 30, 2016, then they would return the money that I overpaid. Since then, it has been extremely difficult to get a hold of their people. And when I did, they put me on hold and said the wait time could be up to 45 minutes. But when I did that once at work and once at home, I was on hold for almost two hours, multiple times. It's like a purgatory of holding time and that was very displeasing. Also, this issue has not been fully resolved until today.
Despite that little incident about the hold time, I highly recommend Home Shield to anyone. The cost ratio of what I spend a year to what AHS could save me with regard to fixing things, is awesome. Their policy is very inexpensive at $500 or $700 a year. For $75, I could have three garage door openers fixed. But at any given time, I could have $500 to spend on the garage openers if I didn't have AHS.

They purchased the microwave and had a company that delivered things come out and put it in. It took me almost two months to get that microwave. The other times that I have with American Home Shield were very good. This one with the microwave, on the other hand, was very bad, but it ended up good. The American Home Shield people that I talked to tried to help me out the best they can but the issue was with the administrative part. There was a lack of communication, and getting the paperwork processed felt like forever. But their contractors were fine and we haven’t had any issues with American Home Shield in the past. The plumbing issue was just one of those hiccups that stick in your brain, but it doesn’t mean that we’re not going to stay with them. I'm a realtor, and I sell AHS. I turned in my washer and my dryer and somehow, it showed the cracks that I had turned into. When I called it in, things were all automated, but the lady who helped me went above and beyond. She and the contractors were very good. They only saw one issue, so they ended up having to come back and doing the washer separately. The tech replaced a valve on the washer and fixed that yesterday, so we're good. He checked it as far as he could, but he said that it would have to run an entire load through. He told me to let him know if it wasn't working correctly and he'd come back. We've run one load through and the softener didn't dump during the load. When my daughter opened the drawer, it dumped down, so we're going to try one more load through and see how it does. American Home Shield's contractors usually come out quickly and the same goes with our fix.

My garage door pipe needs screws and adjusting and I was very happy because American Home Shield covered its motor. Also, the guy who came was pretty good. The other time that I used AHS was for the air conditioner on my rental home and townhome, and the contractor had to come back about four times to fix it. The last time they came, they just filled the freon. I paid an additional $500 and I wasn't too happy with that one.
Also, whenever I call AHS, it takes about an hour of wait to get a person on the line. I know they can do computerized appointments, but I always want to talk a person in explaining to them what's up so I don't have to re-explain and they can send the right guy. If they could improve that, it'll be good. They have been increasing the deductible. It's $120 every time they come whether it's for a minor repair or not but I'm contented with that. I have been with American Home Shield for a long time for two houses that I have and, so far, it's okay. I'm staying with this company.

My air conditioning's capacitor was damaged and the technicians that American Home Shield sent fixed the job quickly. Plus, they were very informative. They let me know what was going on. Another time though, for the same issue, the contractor took two weeks to get back with me. It was irritating because I had family over and, unfortunately, the air conditioner wasn't fixed. But I would still recommend American Home Shield. It has been a good experience with them overall and I definitely plan on remaining a customer.

Our AC wasn’t working the way it was supposed to and it started leaking. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was very easy. I called them, explained what was going on, and they sent a gentleman named Alex, from ANR Air-conditioning. He explained everything he was doing and he figured out that the problem was with the heating unit. The whole process took about a month because he had to get an approval. And he had to order some parts because I have an older furnace. Three weeks after he put it back in, we got a little bit of a cold at the house so I called AHS back and they sent Alex right back out and he fixed it. He knew what was going on and he was fantastic. I’ve already talked to people about getting AHS and they’re planning on starting it because they have somebody else where they have a lot of problems.

My dryer wasn't getting hot. I went to AHS' website to submit a claim and it was easy doing it. They sent a technician and he was hands-on in explaining to me what went wrong, what parts he was going to order and what the next step was. I had to have them come back out and it was just as good. On the other hand, they sent me an email about an item that I had submitted for repair, that it was going to be replaced but it was confusing on how they wanted me to respond. They were asking for a lot of information and a lot of stuff was redundant. Even though they sent the email, I'm still going to have to call them and have someone to walk me through it. Other than that, their service was wonderful and my dryer now is working great.

Recently, the dishwasher was not working and the hot water heater went out. Filing claims for them with American Home Shield has been easy. One time I used their website and the other time, I called and their reps were very helpful. The contractors that they have sent were friendly and helpful too. With the water heater, they assessed it, got a price and they had to come back another day to fix it. I’ve been happy with AHS.

I put in a request online since 12/7 and it hasn’t been done yet and American Home Shield already charged me even before the work is completed. The website asks for a card number and I have to put the number in to move on. Then I have to make a choice either I pay now or I pay later. If I say pay later, they're still requesting the credit card. Today, the guy called twice and told me he was on his way. He left his tools someplace, and when I called, I was told that the plumbing place that he’s coming from had to put the appointment off because he was in an accident with a truck. Prior to the accident, the contractors usually come within a day or two. I have another property that I have them as the home warranty and they show up over there. I hope the contractor comes here today and I'm waiting. Now, he’s holding me up and I will have to go to the store. Today, I'm dissatisfied.

I had a heating issue that had something to do with the blower motor and I called it in because I like to actually talk to a representative. The reps always seemed very nice and they were concerned about what was going on and they quickly transferred me to the contractor who seemed to know a lot about what to do. American Home Shield had put in the motor a few years ago, and they said that it was still covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. So, they were able to get the part sent from the manufacturer who must’ve paid the same repair person because the contractor handled it for me. I’ve had American Home Shield for about 18 years now, so obviously I’m pretty satisfied.

We bought an older home and so we thought that having American Home Shield was a good thing. I used to always call the 800 number and I was on hold for a long time. And it all depends on the weather, like when we had issues with common times where a lot of people had storms and I needed things looked at, it would take 45 minutes. I'm not the one that wanted to use computers but I thought I'd try it, and so I did the last few times and it's a lot quicker.
When we got our new water heater, I thought it was going to be whatever we had, but we found out that it was an older model. And so, because it didn’t meet the standard, we’re going to have to pay more than just the $75 fee for the service call. The rep that was here from the company that was doing the water heater said that a someone would call and explain it to me. And then my phone rang and the representative that I talked to referred me to a certain article and sentence number. He said that we had to pay more because the older unit wasn’t up to the code. I started laughing because I didn’t read the fine print. We had to have a new water heater, but how does that equate? Why do we have to pay more? It didn’t make any sense to me. In the end, it cost us $800 and we paid half of the cost of the gas water heater.
We had another issue when our vent fan over the stove stopped. The company called All In One kept me informed that a part had to be ordered and the contractor told me that right up front. He thought he might have one on his truck so he asked me for the model number the day I first called and they scheduled to come out the next day. Turns out, they were out of that particular part. They told me that that was the time of the year when a lot of people are baking and that element goes out. But he had 20 of them on order and when he got it, all he had to do was pop it in.
Overall, the people that we worked with through American Home Shield have been great. Although the water issue where we ended up having to pay half of the unit was a disappointment, we had the money to pay for it. It would have been a real shock to somebody who didn’t have the means to be able to do that. I told relatives and friends who asked me about American Home Shield to give it a try and see what their experience would. I also told them to read the fine print.

Once you file your claim with American Home Shield, make sure that it is fixed in 30 days. It's because I had previous repairs to my stove. And then I had a bad contractor who came in and never did the job. When I called American Home Shield, they acted as if I never filed a claim. I was really starting to drop them at that point but I didn't want to have to start all over again. So I decided to keep them and AHS had somebody else to do the job. But when I called them to ask what's taking so long to get a part for my stove, AHS pointed to the contractor. And I kept calling and calling. It took a whole year to get the stove fixed.
They use these cheap contractors that come in, check it up, and tell you they will order the part. It does not take six months to get a part ordered. So far, the stove is fixed now and the person who came was wonderful. He ordered the part and he had it in seven days. Overall, while American Home Shield is an okay company, I won't give them good. They had me on hold for too long to speak to a customer service rep. And then once you get through, somebody hangs up on you.

I really appreciate that I have the AHS insurance so I can get any problem fixed quickly. It was the second time that we had problems with the garbage disposal so I’m assuming that it is not in good shape. It was clogged as the sink was filled with dirty water that wouldn’t drain. I made a claim to American Home Shield online and a contractor came over very quickly and investigated what was going on. He tried a few things and was able to quickly fix it without getting a new part. The garbage disposal has been working but I cannot guarantee it’s not going to happen again. The experience has been very good as it usually takes several days for a technician to look at it if I didn’t go through AHS. I’m pretty satisfied with them so far.

I called AHS and put in an order for my kitchen sink as the faucet was leaking and the toilet was wobbling back and forth. This problem started three months ago. They called up a company to come and fix it. They sent this big, old guy that had no shirt on with tattoos all over him. He told me who he was and came in. He couldn’t find the name of my faucet so I could call the home warranty and have them send me another faucet. The reason he couldn’t find anything was because he was too big to get down under the sink. I’m big myself, but in that job, he’s going to have to bend a bit. This whole time, this man was walking around my whole house looking at everything, to the point where I got so nervous that I called my husband. I kept my husband on speaker phone while the guy was here.
This man went and sat in my bathtub to try and fix my toilet. He told me that AHS was not going to pay for this issue. I asked why not and he said that he had put this claim several times to them and AHS never paid for it. I told him that if they wouldn't pay for it, then I should talk to the supervisor so I could tell them, and he agreed. When he came back, he said that he was going to do me a favor as he talked AHS into paying for the repair. But I told him that he wasn't actually doing me a favor because AHS was going to pay for it since I pay them every month. Then he had to come back next time since he didn't have the parts to fix the toilet. It took another three weeks before somebody showed up. That whole time, water was leaking from my faucet and my water bill was going higher.
The next guy came and it took him 5 minutes to fix the toilet and recaulked it back in. He went to the kitchen sink and found the name on there and told me who I needed to call to get it replaced. However, he had another faucet with him which was made out of a thin material. I knew that was going to be broken since what I had was heavy and I got seven kids. So I called and talked to AHS and they said to tell him to put the faucet he had temporarily until I got the other one sent in. Then, they would send him back out to reinstall the new one. He was pissed that he had to do it since he was in a hurry. He was hammering, hitting and throwing stuff. He got the temporary faucet in and then he left.
My parts finally came in and I called AHS, then they called that company back. That morning, I got up and took everything out from underneath the sink, put it on the floor and I saw that there was water underneath my sink. It was coming out of a valve. When the man got here, he noticed that there was water everywhere. I told him that it was probably from all the hammering and stuff he did and knocked it loose. Maybe it needed to be tightened up so he should check it out. He sat outside on his phone, trying to get a hold of AHS. He was out there for two hours to finally get someone on the phone. Then he got back in here and he told me he had the lady on the phone. The lady said we had a work order to put the faucet in but there was no work order for the valve.
I told the guy that it just needed to be tightened up. Then the lady said that all she saw was that they’d been going back and forth with this for a long time, and I agreed with her. I even had supervisors calling me and nothing had gotten done yet. She told the guy to go ahead and put that valve in that same work order and they’d work it out with his people. But he said he had to have two separate work orders. Then she said to fix the valve and put the faucet in also. He went outside, continued to talk to her, and then he got pissed off then hung up on her. He came back in the house and told me that he was only going to fix the valve today since that was all I got a work order for. But I told him that he didn’t know anything about the valve so why couldn't he fix the faucet like he was told to in the first place.
He put the valve and another one on. I asked him if he was serious and told him to let me get AHS on the phone quickly. He then jumped up and started throwing all his tools in his bag and told me that he didn't care if I got them on the phone. I told him to get out of my house, and he walked out. When my husband got home, he turned on the hot water. It was not working in the kitchen. He squeezed them together down there but didn’t open it back up for the hot water when he changed the valve out. My husband got down there and fixed that part. But, I'm still sitting here with a faucet that came in to be put and hasn’t been done yet. I called AHS and the lady on the phone said that she would get back with them and see if they could come back out here to get the faucet fixed. We told them not to send the same guy out as he was not welcome in this house with the way he was talking to me, and she said yes.
She called the supervisor, e-mailed the company and told them that the man needed to finish the job. I called and talked to the lady that’s overseeing dispatch. I had been talking to her forever on this. She and I get along fine and I told her what happened and that I'm still here with a faucet that is not done since he said it wasn’t on his work order, which was what he was initially supposed to come out here to do. She told me that she would get with the owner and would call me right back, but, she never did. They haven’t finished handling the repair. The real problem I have with AHS is the wait to get to talk to somebody, which is ridiculously long. They either need to hire more people or get a receptionist. It’s terrible.

I've been using AHS for about a year and recently, I had a claim about a plumbing issue. The thing that keeps the tank of my toilet close when I flush it wasn’t working properly for a week already. I called AHS and they listened to my complaint. They made sure that it was covered under the warranty then they set us up with a local plumber who came and took care of it. The plumber ended needing to replace the part which he had in stock. Sometimes, I pay upfront but at that time, AHS billed us later and I paid the deductible online.
I've filed several claims with AHS before and whenever I speak to their reps, most of my interactions were positive. Even when we had a major claim, things went pretty smoothly. Our air conditioner wasn't working and it turned out that the condenser was broken. And so, they ended up needing to replace that part. However, the company AHS asked to come out was in the Magnolia area which was in Southwest Houston. They weren't able to come because it was the day that Hurricane Harvey was hitting. It ended up delaying the process a bit but that was an extreme situation. But other than that, things have always worked out fine after a repair and everybody I've interacted with through American Home Shield has been really great. It seemed like AHS vetted them really well.

The most recent claim we submitted to AHS was for a plumbing issue. The contractors who came had to come back because the faucet didn't stop leaking. They came back out after I've called the very next day, and fixed it up. The contractor AHS sent for plumbing was pretty good. The only problem I've ever had with American Home Shield was when we had an air conditioning problem a couple of years ago. It took two weeks to get our air conditioner fixed in our house in Las Vegas. It was 103 inside, and our little baby daughter was there. It was pretty bad. The electricians had to order parts from American Home Shield and American Home Shield just dragged your feet up in getting parts especially that was a hot summer in July in Las Vegas.

We needed to replace the garbage disposal and it was fairly easy to file a claim to American Home Shield. However, it took three and a half weeks for them to replace it. The first plumber assumed we had a cheap 1/2 horsepower and he was supposed to put in a 1 horsepower. He still put it in then I called the office back telling them about putting in a 1 horsepower. We had to set it up again so the next guy came out and he was supposed to bring the 1 horsepower. He goes up to Home Depot to buy but Home Depot is out. He had to come back out a third time.
It took four different trips before they got it finally correct. Had AHS ask what type of horsepower I had before they came, all of that would have been solved. I got in touch with American Home Shield twice in the middle of the process and they were very helpful to get it straightened out. Everything’s fine and I’m happy overall with the service of American Home Shield.

Our furnace started making grinding noises about 12 hours ago (sounds like a loose motor barring) and we submitted a request and paid for the service call through the automated system. When I contacted the contracted company - whom never contacted us - I was told that because the issue wasn't expedited that they could not come out until Tuesday. We are in a wind chill warning with temperatures of 20-40 below zero F through Tuesday afternoon. I don't like the idea of running a furnace with a loose barring or motor issue so I called the AHS customer service, waited over 2 hours and spoke to a woman that let me know she'd look into expediting the service order with the original company.
She called me back 1 hour later to let me know that the work couldn't be expedited by the original contractor and that she'd reach out to 3 other contractors. Two of those companies were reached while I was on the phone with her and they both could not expedite the work order. She was waiting on one additional company and placed the work order in a queue to find alternatives. She said if I did not hear from them (AHS and/or contractor) within 4 hours to call AHS to discuss the next steps. When I inquired if I could assist by notifying other options on my own, I was told that I could not hire on my own without giving AHS the opportunity to first find a contractor and the 4 hour window to do so. I called back per request and they are closed!
The wind chill outside is approaching 40 below F currently with a temp of -12 F and my family is crammed into one room in our home with space heaters because of this mess. We are now reluctantly running the furnace in hopes of bringing the temperature up inside our home before we go to bed this evening. If I had known AHS was going to provide deficient service, I would have called a contractor 12 hours ago and who cares about the warranty - I can afford a new furnace without the runaround.
I will say the lady I spoke to was pleasant and I won't fault her for this. She did call me back as promised and she let me know step-by-step what was happening in the moment and the next step after each call. I know that her hands are tied and I appreciated her pleasant nature. I do fault the company for not providing proper staffing for a non-automated work order and for a lesser wait time (I waited over 2 hrs for the two times I've called AHS). The promise of 24/7 needs to be adjusted. Yes, I can submit a work order at 2 am with the automated system when my pipes burst but it won't be expedited - whose fault is that? I also think allowances should be provided in situations that involve health and safety, including heating during wind chill warnings (just one example). I don't intend on purchasing a warranty with AHS in the future. What an unpleasant mess!

I was without heat for a week. I've been with American Home Shield for years and it took a long time before they switched over to another company which I could do after a week when it's the winter time and there's no heat in my house 24/7. The people came out here four different times. The first one said it was a loose screw. Another guy came out and checked something else and refigured the thermostat on the wall but it didn't work. When the fourth guy came, he took the board and said that it had a little spot on it so they’re ordering another one. He didn't sound like he was sure that was the problem. The other guys didn't solve the problem but at least they looked like they were sure it was the problem. The fourth guy wasn’t encouraging at all and wouldn't answer well, not even when we had to order.
I had to call AHS and that's when they offered me to send them the receipt. The contractor tried to get some heat and at that time, they told me that it would be in Friday. I had to pay for the overnight but they probably weren’t going to order again, so they told American Shield that they couldn't overnight it. Then the fifth time they came was with the parts. American Home Shield should have stepped in before that but then, they said that they would get heater after about the third day and that they would give me a hundred dollars just to stay heated.
On the other hand, the claim representative was very nice. She was very helpful and seemed concerned. She said she would try and get someone out. But I had to go back and look because I had all the papers. They called that day and the contractors almost came out later that day or the very next one. However, every time they came out, we thought it was fixed, but then it would go right back out and I have to call again which cost me. The second time, I called the contractor but they said that I had to call American Home Shield, so I did and they sent the contractor back. From then on, I just called American Home Shield. But I'm here without heat just because they're telling me I don't have to pay anything, which isn't going to happen when it's cold and I'm 73 because I could get pneumonia up in here.
But so far, my heater has been working good but I'm not sure if it's working a hundred percent. And it seems odd to me because before, if I turned it up on 75, it would be burning up in here. Now, I'm turning on 75, even towards higher in order for it to start warming up. It looked like it's turned up on 75 but it was not coming on, then eventually it does. I also used to just keep it set at 72 because I don't like it to be changing around, but they can't stay at 72.
Some years ago, I encouraged people, even both of my sisters, to get American Home Shield. But then, at this point, I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I did. I'm tired of reaching out to American Home Shield. They've been out here many times and it wasn't really a good experience. I'm definitely dissatisfied with them.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that you endured to have your heat repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.
