I had a problem with my air conditioning. It initially started with the fan motor making this horrendous noise that we didn't even hear in the house and our neighbor came and told us. It sounded like a jet taking off. Several people came out for it. They fixed one thing and then another thing was broken so I had to wait for another service again. They replaced a condenser fan and another part with a one-half HD. Then the condenser was a bad fan blade and the motor that was just replaced needed to be changed out. And then one time, the prior service person had hooked something up backward which was found through another repair. It went on over a period of time but American Home Shield's contractors finally got my air conditioning working and back up running. They were polite, nice and did most of the work in the garage.
We also had American Home Shield out for our refrigerator before and they were always prompt to take our call. However, there was one time, shortly after the hurricane, when I waited a very long time on hold before I could get through to them. They have a $75 fee when I call them but we didn't have to pay $75 each time for all those visits because it was within a specified period of time. So once a visit's paid and have a problem within a month or two, they wouldn't recharge for that.

The problem started when we had our dishwasher backed up and would not drain. We discovered it one night and we called American Home Shield the next morning to submit the claim. It was very simple and they were very businesslike, very helpful and they accommodated our needs. Within three days we had a technician out who was polite and very helpful. He talked with us about a product we could buy that would help clean up the dishwasher and make it function better. We did exactly what he suggested and it worked.
The tech also had to put in a temporary fuse. He said that it was only temporary and gave us some instructions about how to use the machine until we get the permanent part to use which came in about another four days. The tech came out and put it in and everything worked great. I'm glad American Home Shield is there because it helps us to not have to try and figure out who to go to get dependable service. It makes the whole process much simpler.

I've had the American Home Shield since I moved here close to 10 years ago and anytime I've had a claim nothing was covered or the technicians' hands were tied. The technicians had to do some little teeny fix on the water heater because that was all that was allowed. The water heater was three-fourths full of sediment and when they came out they bled it out. But they couldn't get the sediment out and the hot water would leak once it gets too full. They told me it was going to not run efficiently and I'm going to need it fixed again. The unit should've been replaced. So I had to buy a new water heater. That also happened with my washer and my dryer.
When my bathroom had leakage I told the plumber the ceiling needed to be replaced but he said no so now I have damage in my kitchen ceiling. So I'm not happy with American Home Shield. With the issue with the toilet, I had someone come out twice and I told American Home Shield I did not want the same contractor. The guy who was just out now was fabulous and he apologized. It was probably going to be a thousand-dollar repair but I can't afford that just to fix a bathroom sink so he took his own time to show me how I would be able to possibly do it myself. He was phenomenal but on AHS' end, the part that they're supposed to do seems hasty now.
It's almost like they find some loophole so they don't have to pay for the repair. Then they would say I could've added that. But no one tells you that until it's too late. The warranty has a purpose but I'm to a point where I should just self-insure to save money. I'm considering canceling it and for people with mechanical skills or a how-to book they should put their $75 a month in a bank and then for the things they can't do they can pay for a repairman.

Customer service is absolutely substandard. How in the hell is the wait time over 1hr. I tried to update my payment information and their automated service started to glitch and stopped the process. Also I checked their quotes online and they advertise lower prices than what you actually pay. I will wait over 1hr just to talk to their worthless customer service reps. God forbid I ever need them to actually fix anything... If that day comes and their service fails to perform I will take them to small claims court for wasting my time! I will look for another insurance company. This is the worst!!! I hope American Home Shield rep even sees this and calls me because this is terrible. I have so many curse words to let them hear and I hope they record if they call me.

We switched to AHS from another company this year after hearing good reviews. Trying to find another plumber that can come out today instead of 3 days later when dealing with a plumbing emergency. Been on hold for over 90 minutes trying to speak with a human that can locate another plumber! Seriously reconsidering renewing with these scam artists. I don't think any other company makes it this difficult to connect with a human.

I've been a customer for years. This is a "home" warranty. My home is running 24/7. Every time something breaks it is not "business" hours. Last night a Friday night...the coldest night of the year so far...my heater stops working. AHS assigns a service outfit that only operates during normal business hours. My home that runs 24/7 needs to get by till Monday, at the earliest, to just have a tech even set to come out. This happened before with my air conditioning in the summer. The company that serviced my a/c sent a couple criminals to my house. In the end if you offer a "home" warranty...then offer "home" hours of service. Not business hours service. And how about respectable representatives that come to your home. If the a/c and heater were not cold I would have dropped this clown outfit a long time ago!

I scheduled a service for a ceiling A/C unit through the AHS website. The contractor (MS SERVICES INC) promptly called to inform me that they do not work on ceiling units and that they would close the request. Called AHS, waited for 65 minutes on the phone, spoke to someone to explain the situation and asked to be assigned another contractor. The rep said that she would take care of this. A few hours later, checked my AHS account online to find out that I was assigned to the same contractor. Called AHS again, waited for another 60 minutes. The rep took another 15 minutes reviewing the notes and 5 minutes listening to me explaining the situation, she still did not understand what was going on.
Luckily MS SERVICES INC called me while I was on the phone with AHS and after a 3-way conversation the rep was able to figure out the situation. She said I was going to be assigned to another contractor. The next contractor was JS HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING. They were prompt to call back as well. They showed up at the scheduled time and also stated that they did not work on these units. I called AHS for a third time, waited for 40 minutes, talked to someone and she said she would need to confirm with JS HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING that they cannot fix the problem. After that, she said she would assign me to another contractor and call me.
Fast forward 1 week. I still have not been contact by AHS about the next steps. I called them this morning. After 25 mins on the phone waiting to talk to someone, the call got disconnected. No one called back so I called back I am waiting to speak with someone again right now. 40 minutes and counting. In summary, I suppose if you are lucky and do not run into any trouble with getting the right contractor the first time, you may get your issue fixed. But if you have to talk with AHS (which you will probably need to), you will have to deal with very unhelpful reps after having to wait 60+ minutes at a time to talk to someone.
They also have a chat option on their website but I have not seen it work so far. This company would definitely do a service to their customers if they had a callback option. It "feels" like they want to minimize calls by making people wait. I will not renew my contract with them after it expires, unless I can cancel it, which would be my preference.
I understand your concerns with the hold times that you endured to speak with customer service and the delay in service to have your air conditioning system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I had home warranties with American Home Shield for many years when I owned rental properties and was pleased with the ease of contacting Customer Service. This is the third attempt in 24 hours to reach a customer service rep only to be placed on hold for at least one hour before I hang up or being disconnected. This is unacceptable. The problem I am having is with a work order in process. The contractor arrived to service a leaking dishwasher and repair a gas cooktop. The cooktop was successfully repaired but the dishwasher will require a return trip after additional parts are received.
The contractor charged me for this service call, $75.00 plus tax, which totaled $81.08 and I paid it with a credit card. Another thing that surprised me was being taxed on labor. After looking at my AHS Service Request printout after the contractor left, I realized he should not have charged me as I had already paid the $75.00 service fee to AHS when I initiated the Service Request. Please advise how to reverse the contractor's charge to my credit card. Thank you.

We recently had leaks in the pipes for the pool pump so we filed a claim to AHS online and the process was easy. The contractor they sent was okay. We had them before once, two years ago when we had a sprinkler head that was broken. I came back from vacation and I had an $800 water bill. They did fine there. Six months ago, we had a problem with the plumbing in the pool. They came that time and were supposed to call me when they got here, but I never got a call. Then this time, we were going out of town too. They came but then they had to order a part. Then, they broke something, but they fixed it. The repair just took a little bit longer than what I had imagined and they got everything fixed. They're not as communicative as other companies that we've had, but they're good and they were very nice.
The first year that we had used AHS, we had a bunch of air conditioning problems. The company that they had was not very good, but they've since then gotten rid of them, which is good because the most recent ones were great. We’ve finally got everything all fixed and everything's working well. When you have a problem and the company comes out to fix it, and if a couple of weeks later the problem is still there and you resubmit it, there's never any extra charge. They just make the contractor come back out. It's great to have AHS and we recommended it to our family in Indiana. It’s really nice to be able to have this kind of a warranty with your own stuff when you move into a house.

One of the parts of our garage door opener was damaged so I went online and filed a claim with AHS. That was pretty easy but the contractors were not kind of clear on what they needed to do. There were two different companies that came to see the problem. The first one came with some diagnostic but they said they needed to talk to American Home Shield. They could repair it or replace it. The upfront fee wasn’t covered so they never repaired it. When I asked for a different opinion from a different vendor, American Home Shield sent another company and they said that it should be covered. Everything is working great now.

I have had trouble calling American Home Shield so I submitted my most recent claim over the internet which was fine. Our washing machine wouldn’t agitate and the water didn’t go out, so the contractor had to replace the motor. He was very knowledgeable and he knew what he was doing. He had to order the parts which came in a week later. He was friendly and he did an excellent job. The machine has been great since the repair. Last year, I had five different episodes and I have nothing but good things to say about any of them.

American Home Shield has been fantastic with me. They have been easy to deal with and got technicians out right away. With my most recent claim, the contractor came out, looked at my issue and explained everything to me. It took a day or two before he got the okay for it and then it went fine. But we couldn't get ahold of American Home Shield for several days and their website kept kicking me off. They might be having computer problems at the time. It kept telling me I couldn't find the website. The repair people told me the same thing. He tried getting through American Home Shield but he couldn't either. But it turned out okay. It just took a couple of days extra, which was no big deal.
I had plumbers come out about 10 years ago and they tried to gouge me with everything about the hot water heater. So I just did it myself and then I requested A1 Plumbing to be the only one that American Home Shield send out here when I have a problem. Other than that, there’s been no big problem at all. And I have no problem recommending American Home Shield to anybody.

This has been one of the worst consumer experiences of my life. You CANNOT talk to human being as the wait times are OVER AN HOUR! My garage door jammed and since I didn't want to wait an hour on the phone, I requested service via voicemail which means you have to wait to find out who your service person is and cannot contact them right away. By the time I received confirmation, they were closed - their voicemail saying the earliest they could be out for new appointments was Monday! This was on Wednesday - my car was going to be stuck in the garage for 6 day!?
Are you kidding? I went through the 'trying to get a human on the phone' again, almost a hour-punching all the numbers on the voicemail. Finally got through to Alisa and said I wanted to cancel my contract and not to charge the $100 service fee I had prepaid. She said she would but that someone had to call me to confirm the cancellation of the contract. NO ONE did!
I had asked Alisa for a direct number to her - it was just the same old 'wait an hour' voicemail! So I had to go through this horror all over again. After nearly another hour, got Jackie who said she would cancel my contract and the $100 service fee. (Good luck). I asked if she had a direct line and that I could not find an email link on the American Home Shield site. She says there are none! All other sites have them! When I complained about the wait times etc., she said they were "aware of the problems". Really? Then DO something about them. I don't see how they stay in business. On Thursday morning I called my local garage door company and they were out within 3 hours and fixed it for less than $100. No should have to spend this much time and aggravation to get service! BUYER BEWARE - STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!

Our microwave quit working on Tuesday so we completed the online request and were told that a local technician would call us within 24 hours. After 24 hours we had not received a call so my wife tried to call AHS and sat on hold for over an hour without an answer. She finally had to call the local company herself who said they had just received the request from AHS. Keep in mind that AHS had no problem taking our deductible from our account the night we called but not much interest in making sure we received a call from the repair company. Two days later, the technician showed up and attempted to fix the problem. He was very polite and tried several things but was unable to fix the appliance. The technician then attempted to call AHS from my residence to request further approval to fix our microwave but even he was unable to get an answer. He sat at my house on hold for over 45 minutes.
Finally he said he would just have to get back with us and left without providing us any solution or time frame. So now, my microwave is still broken, AHS will not answer our phone calls and we can't use our appliance. I will be ending my service once this issue is fixed if I can ever get someone to actually answer the phone. We have been a loyal customer for over four years, always pay our monthly fee and have actually used the service very little. It's very disappointing when a company treats their hardworking customers this way.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service that you have experienced to have the microwave repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues as soon as possible. Thank you,

I phoned AHS for a sink blockage the middle of Nov 9, 2017, A plumbing company came out on 11/28/2017, cleared the blockage but did not clear the air vent. AHS deducted $125 from my checking to pay for this service. Two weeks later the kitchen sink backed up again, I immediately called the plumbing company, I have left 3 messages. They have never returned any of my calls, I have contacted AHS 6 times with always an estimated wait time of 30 mins, to over an hour. I have waited these time frames & never got a person. I finally today 1/5/18 put in an automated request to get a plumber back out to get this fixed, but now AHS's automated system is charging me another $125.00. I need to speak to a human being (1) to get my sink problem fixed once & for all & (2) I believe I am not suppose to be billed unless the problem reoccurs 90 days after it has been repaired. And it has not been fixed.
I understand your frustration with the repeated stoppage issue as well as the multiple service fees that you have been charged. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

AHS is possibly the worst company I have ever dealt with in my 67 years on this planet. I bought an AHS warranty on the advice of my realtor when I bought my home in Florida. A few months after moving in I received a $350 power bill that should have been no more than $125. AHS sent Total Air care to fix it. $75 thank you very much. That was late Feb. I then went on a 6 month trip in my RV and returned home the first week in Sept. and quickly found that my AC could not keep my home cool even though it ran 24/7 and I got another $350 power bill. AHS sent Total Air care (again). After another $75 it again was fixed, for about 10 days when I realized it was again on the fritz and I got another $300+ power bill and Total Air came and fixed it again, that was early Nov.
Late November we got a cold snap and I spent the whole weekend in my home with the temp around 50* because AHS or Total Air does not answer the phone on weekends. Now the first week in Jan the unit is running 24/7. Can't get the temp in my home above 65* unless it is a sunny day. I am telling AHS it is time to replace this unit. They say, “No.” Now I am forced to go to small claims court the get satisfaction. Do yourself a favor. Do not do business with AHS.
Updated on 02/09/2018: My heat pump has not worked for 6 months now. AHS has sent out their repair company, Total Air Care, (another loser of a company) more than 9 times in 2 months. It is always working when they leave, SOMETIMES it even works more than 10 minutes, but not usually!! AHS says they will replace the unit. All they need is for the repair company to recommend that in their report. LOL. Total Air says "they would NEVER do that, they get paid for fixing them." I have had 4 power bills more than $350, should be no more than $100-$125, I have had many days with the temp in my home above 87*. The thing just keeps running and NOTHING comes out the vents, I have had more than 6 nights with the temp in my home below 50*. AHS DOES NOT CARE about any of this.
FINALLY AHS calls me 2 weeks ago to say they were working on a buyout for me. I say, "GREAT," I know I will be way ahead with a new unit, so to be fair, I don't mind kicking in some cash. They say they are sending a different contractor to give them a second opinion. So this guy comes out and after a good laugh, says, "It would be waste of time and money to try to fix this thing, you could get it running but 10 minutes it would be something else." Tell me something I don't know!! So a few days later AHS calls me and says they are working on a buyout and they would call me back that afternoon or the next to tell me the amount they would pay.
I wait 3 days, nothing. I call them, wait the usual 1 hour on the phone for them to pick up the phone, and they say the company THEY sent to do the second opinion is NOT qualified to do that!! There would be no buyout because the ONLY contractor in my area is (guess who) Total Air!! They have been here another 3 time since then. They were here 4 days ago, and it worked for 24 hours then quit. They are coming AGAIN today!! PLEASE, PLEASE, There are other warranty companies out there, spend your money with them NOT AHS!!! AHS is a complete waste of time and money and, I think, a SCAM!! The only thing AHS is good at is taking your money and giving NOTHING in return!!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The rep was straightforward, polite, and professional, and she took care of everything. The gentleman who came out and worked on the plumbing was very friendly and no-nonsense. He walked me through step by step on what the problem was and spoke in simple layman’s terms, so I understood it. It turned out that the major water leakage was from the city’s end, but the repair slowed down the problem and everything went great. The guy did his job and I’d use him again. My neighbors had the same issue and they used other people and they got taken to the cleaners. But since then, one of them already asked me to recommend American Home Shield and they should be signing up before the week.

The ice would not fall out from the automatic ice maker in the refrigerator, and we got a hum whenever we push. We filed a claim over the phone and had an AHS representative in less than five minutes. My wife spoke to them and everything went smoothly. A man came out, replaced the part and the ice maker was working fine. I’ve also had an experience where the microwave tube did not work so the technician told us to have the microwave and oven replaced. American Home Shield called and told us to go the GE online. They gave us the model number and see if the comparable agrees with us. And if not, we could look for what we want and we pay the difference.
We looked at it and we said it was fine so I called them right back. AHS shipped the new unit but the people who brought it were supposed to install it too. They were installation technicians but they didn’t know how to install it. So, we called AHS and they told us that they’ll find somebody. After a couple of weeks, they couldn’t find anybody else and AHS sent us a check and said we were on our own. We called a local appliance company in town and the technician came out. We paid him a few dollars more than what AHS gave us.
We’ve also had a very dissatisfying experience when we got the pool coverage. Our in-ground spa was not working so we called to put in a claim. AHS sent a man who was 80 miles away from here. He came in about 4:30 and checked hurriedly. He told us the problem was underground and that AHS didn’t cover it. He also said that he’d talk to AHS. Then, AHS called us back two days later and told us that it wasn’t indeed covered so I called a local pool person who told us that the problem wasn’t underground. I thought that maybe the guy didn’t want to drive 80 miles back. So, I got the pool fixed, and it cost me $300 to have somebody else come out here and do it. So, I called AHS and told them I would challenge that. It was very discouraging that it was the integrity of that particular person they had sent out.
I also had another thing when the heating and air conditioning went on the blink so the man came out and told us that there were some worn out things and it will cost us $1,300 to replace the parts. I bought the house four months ago, but the air conditioning system is over 15 years old. The technician told us that we have to have an HVAC maintenance as AHS will deny a claim if anything goes wrong because we didn’t have the maintenance contract. I told them to go ahead and put in a new system as they said I needed it. And they paid $1,300 towards the $5,500 HVAC system.

They said, "Oh... go out and buy some space heaters. We will reimburse you up to $100 bucks." The company has 48 hours to contact us. Keep in mind we are having single digit temperature weather. I’ve been calling American Home Shield ALL day today but the telephone wait is over 1 hour. That’s insane. After this is settled I will be seeking another home warranty company.

I signed up with AHS in August. My first time to request service was this past Monday. I logged into my account, selected service for my dishwasher. They assigned one contractor, but then called to say that that contractor did not service my brand of dishwasher and they were assigning a new contractor. The new contractor did not contact me within the 24 hour window, so I called them directly yesterday, Wednesday. They were not able to come out until the following week on Tuesday.
I called AHS back to see if they had another contractor available. She said that they would have to "cancel with the other contractor" in order to schedule with a new one. I asked her not to cancel until she found someone else. They have already charged me $120 for the service call that isn't even happening. She canceled. I have not received word of a new service company coming. The wait on the phone is "in excess of one hour." They do not have a chat resource available. And the WORST part... Now somehow they do not have an option for me to even request service for my dishwasher. Did they take it off my contract? I can't get ahold of anyone. Terrible customer service.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service to repair your dishwasher. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.
Thank you,

I put in my first claim for a dishwasher repair, the repair company came and said they had to order a part. It took a month for them to come back to repair and I was on the phone with AHS for an hour to get them to follow up. The dishwasher was eventually fixed. I put in a request for a furnace repair. The company never came and AHS actually billed me the $106 fee along with an email saying that the company completed the repair. Another long phone call with AHS and they refunded my money, I filed a complaint with the BBB. I'm done with AHS and cancelled my contract.

This company is obviously in a complete free fall. How they have a 4 star rating is beyond laughable. Majority of reviews in last month is at 1 star. Made an online request for service on Saturday 12/30/17. AHS took $, assured I would hear from contractor in 24 hours. After calls to contractor and staying on hold with AHS twice over an hour, I still have heard back from no one... it is Wed Jan 3!!! This is a service related industry and what people are experiencing is so bad, it is potentially fraudulent. Believe it is time for lawyer to explore class action proceedings.

American Home Shield sent out a contractor who worked on my kitchen sink that wouldn't turn. It was stove up because of the minerals and things in the mechanism itself. The contractor was very nice. And he explained it that they are going to have to get a new faucet. I went online to file the claim and somebody got back to me the next day. The customer service reps were very courteous and professional. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield.

So far, AHS is doing a pretty good job. I haven't come across anything that's been terrible. I normally file claims over the phone and I get through fairly quickly. I recently called a claim concerning my first-floor furnace. We've had to call the technicians out several times for the same thing, but they've always come out, been very pleasant, and worked on the problem. They eventually got it figured out and explained what the problem was. People should definitely give AHS a try.

Our shower faucet was acting up and I submitted a claim online to AHS. Their website was very user-friendly. The contractor came out when they said they were coming. He had to go, get a part then come back. But he did that promptly and did the fix within a couple of hours after he first showed up. AHS is a good deal and is almost like an insurance policy. I pay money every month. If I don't use it, it's money gone down the drain, but if I need it, it's well worth it.

To make a very long story short their customer service is horrible. You wait for up to an hour or more to reach a person. But if you press sales it’s immediate. I had one of their Reps tell me it’s because they need help and no one wants to work these days. Well there’s people in sales that sure want to work. When my year is up I’m going elsewhere. Worst ever and it’s a shame because they had a great reputation.

I am extremely disappointed in AHS. My fridge, which was covered by my home warranty, had a water line that was not working. After paying my deductible to have a service-person review the situation, he was done in five minutes and didn't actually do anything - he showed me how to lower the temp of the freezer and wait 24-48 hours to see if the problem was fixed. And I'm still out $100. I called and asked for a partial or full refund, to which AHS said no. I will not be renewing my service and I am telling people to stay away from AHS.

American Home Shield sent a tech. To my home on dec 28, to check out my A/C unit, after the inspection, I was told what the problem was, and immediately was told it was going to cost me, $8522.00 to fix my unit. My plan of coverage stated that if they could not fix then it would be replaced, so they offered a reduce rate of $2800. Minus the $8522. That I would have to pay, I read my contract and the coverage should cover the repairing of the unit.

Our washer had problems so we tried to use our home warranty through American Home Shield. Filling out the claim online was simple enough but that was the last time any of this was simple. Repairman sent back info to AHS, and we were to receive options a few days later. We gave it an extra few days since the beginning of the next week fell on Christmas. Trying to call led to a hilariously long multi hour holds, and random disconnects. The only way I got through was when I submitted a duplicate request online, and they called to confirm my payment information. Seriously do not use this company. They make no effort to be proactive in their care, and only engage on social media where it's visible. Go look at their Facebook page comments, it's indicative of how our experience has gone.

Thurs Dec 28 I came home from hospital and found I had no heat. Called AHS and asked for repair. This furnace has been fixed twice in Sept 2017 but I was told the part was out of warranty. The next day a repairman came out and said I need a new furnace. Before he left my home he contacted AHS and made a request for new furnace. I called him Tues and he still had not heard from AHS. I am in hotel costing us money and still no resolution to request. I called a local repairman and he is going to try and get us heat today. Now we have frozen pipes upstairs. Yesterday I was on hold to AHS for 1 hr 20 min. So far today almost 2 hrs. Am disgusted and plan on cancelling my agreement but I have already paid for serviceman and they took monthly installment out of my card today. I had service on my microwave a few months ago and it was 6 weeks before I got a microwave. Very unhappy with AHS.
Updated on 02/26/18: I first submitted a complaint on Jan 3, 2018 to ConsumerAffairs which I did get a response from AHS. However since then it is very difficult to get in touch with them. You could spend 2 hours on hold waiting for someone to answer. Finally I spoke to someone, not Stacy **, who was the one that responded to my email. Was advised to fax furnace bill and hotel bill to her and did so on Feb 1, 2018. Have not heard since from her.
I have called everyday this week and left messages and emailed her one day to try and get the money for the furnace that was promised. Yesterday I finally got someone who answered the phone and she said Stacy was not in her office but she would have her call me back. No call back came. I am angry because you call and either get no one to answer or you are on hold for hours. I had to spend three days in hotel because of the cold weather and no heat. She was to try and get some of the hotel bill to be paid by AHS. We need to pay for furnace and need to have the 900.00 dollars that was promised from AHS to help pay for furnace.

The contractor that American Home Shield sent for a water heater issue over-exaggerated what it would cost to put in some type of air thing that the state required to put in. He stated it would take about $900. So, I called up another certified plumber that I knew and he said he’d do it for $400. So I just did a cashout with AHS and had the other plumber install it and didn't use the one that AHS recommended. The cashout that they gave to replace my water heater, though, was a little low. The same water heater that I want to place (50 gallons) will cost about $620 but the cashout was probably $90 lower than the cheapest one that I could have gotten that has a 12-year warranty. Still, I had three people who got AHS because I recommended it to them.

I had very good experiences and I pay annually, but it’s nice to not have to shell out thousands of dollars when something bad happens. People should make sure they read their contract to understand what is and isn’t covered before things happen.

We had a drain for a washing machine that started overflowing around August, and in October, our landlady decided to call AHS on our behalf. However, the first plumber who came out was not able to open the access line to snake the clog properly and did a secondary option which did not solve the problem as well. So our landlady called in a second plumber who came and fixed the problem which was great, but AHS decided to charge two service fees for the two different calls. They agreed to clear out the additional service if the second plumber was able to come to a different conclusion which they did. But the second plumber failed to send in their diagnosis to AHS, but they claimed they did it several times. Our landlady has also been harassing me to pay the fees when it's a problem between her and AHS.

American Home Shield is a great company. It’s worth the money to have somebody dependable to come out and work on our products when needed. They screen the quality of the person that will do the work and they do the work they say they're going to do. I trust that AHS won’t tell me I need something that I don’t need. We've had a lot of repairs that we had to have done on my daughter's house and mine, and they have been wonderful. Recently, my refrigerator was not closing properly and I submitted a claim to AHS. I used to do it with a rep but this last time, I went through the automated system and did it online. It was simple and I’ll do that from now on. The contractor came out when he said he was going to be here. He was courteous and cleaned up after himself. The ref has been working perfectly since then and it's made our daily operations at home a lot easier. I have recommended AHS to tons of people.

American Home Shield primarily provides service for my 20-year old furnace which I have the most issue with. When I submit my claim to them, the person who answers the phone is always more than helpful and very knowledgeable of the basic questions that I have. However, the contractors are a hit or miss and they just pick and choose a variety of people. I had one incident that went on for two months before they got me a good person in, and I called for my dryer a couple of times and had random people as well. Sometimes, the contractors also come in from a distance to my home but there are several in the area that's on their service.
Also, the technician didn’t do anything when they came last time to repair the furnace. The furnace doesn’t immediately get hot or cold and it typically happens over two hours, so by the time the technician leaves, he doesn’t know if it’s working or not especially for the distribution of heat which is the case that I had. I went down myself, played with and adjusted the dampers in the vent, and was able to get it to distribute accordingly. So, I called them back and told them they didn't need to come out.
But what concerns me is that at what point will they stop putting band-aid services on my furnace and tell me that I can replace it, or if I will keep spending $100 for them to send service people out. They replaced a washer that I had but the only reason they did was because I would do a sell-off and split. They also had no choice but to replace it because they couldn't put the door back. On the other hand, they are very responsive, have a great service, and they work to give a technician out quickly. I feel good overall and I will definitely recommend them.

He had to shut the whole thing down, order a motherboard and he said I should have it within 2 weeks but it only took 10 days. He called, made an appointment, came out and slapped it in. A couple of hours later he was gone and the refrigerator is great. He cleaned up and he was terrific.
I submitted the claim online and the site was good. Sometimes I'm not near a computer and my wife doesn't like to handle things like that so I have to handle all the garbage. I'm a telephone guy but I'll go online and do more. I got tired of being put on hold forever. They should have a little better customer service response time on the phone. Then, American Home Shield assigned an appliance company which I did not want because I've had them before and they were terrible. I wanted to have another appliance company but again, I had to wait an hour and a half for a call. I've been frustrated and it's not conducive for a good relationship with them.
I called the appliance company and it took me almost an hour to reach them only to find out that they could not service my appliance for at least one week. The tech who came was very personable and very good. The latest claim I had, I was able to get through the operator and request another appliance company who came out to do some work and was very good.
I'm unhappy with AHS' telephone answering procedure but I haven’t quit on them. They should hire or engage more people to answer their telephones so the services would be improved instead of having to wait such a long time to get them on the phone and then, similarly, to wait an incredibly long time to get their contractor they're referring to complete the job.

I went online to file a claim to American Home Shield for my heater. It took them the next day to respond and the contractor came out the following day. He was very knowledgeable and he fixed it. I was pleased because I’ve not really had that much luck with American Home Shield on other claims. I think that they look for a reason not to go ahead and fix it. And if I say I got an issue with the air conditioner but it’s not heating or cooling, they’ll only address one thing on it and then they’ll say no. It was missing a part or it was installed incorrectly or to bring back and fix that which is typically frustrating.
I’ve put in three claims and this was my fourth claim. I pay $75 every time I put a claim in and they said that they could not do anything to help me with the three previous claims I had. I told them we bought a house which was 23 years old and the air conditioning unit had been the same unit. They said they would never repair anything on this unit because of its age. Out of the years that I’ve tried to use AHS, I only had one successful time.

My house is only seven years old and I've had a lot of problems with my appliances this year, and I sure am glad I had American Home Shield’s insurance. Their customer service is fine but it's not super. They should not have their customers on hold for an hour or more. When a gentleman called me to renew my contract in November, I honestly was not going to renew it because I could never get ahold of them. But the supervisor that I had for a microwave issue was fabulous. She solved all my problems and reduced the price that I had to pay. However, they’ve billed me twice erroneously. First was when I already paid and the second time was when I got a $75 gift certificate for my next repair.
The most recent claim I had was for my refrigerator and it was not finished. The contractor has been out four times and they still need to come out one more time. They brought a seal but it wouldn't work three times. However, it was not their fault because they worked hard on getting a seal but every seal that they ordered was like folded up and had creases in it so they couldn’t get it on smoothly enough to seal the refrigerator. They got one that didn’t have any wrinkles on it but it’s still not sealing right so I have to call AHS about that. They also fixed my ice maker, but they didn't replace the bottom part where you'd push the button and ice come out. It still doesn't work and they've never made an appointment to come out and change it.
Unfortunately, I've had that problem with almost every single person who had come to my house. AHS had one air conditioning company come out twice. The company that came out told me that they could not come out again because they lost their license so AHS had to get another company. Also, the plumbers had to come back around three times. The electrical people also came out twice. It's like there's never anything fixed on the first try and I had to make arrangements to be home so they can come back out. I have a lot of appointments with the doctors and I have to rearrange my whole schedule to make sure that I get something fixed. Other than those, AHS has been very helpful and I haven't had any problems with them not replacing something that was broken or approving whatever repair work needs to be done. They're very good about that.

We recently had a circuit board problem. My wife submitted a claim online and it was easy but calling AHS was pretty bad. It took 45 minutes to an hour. When I call American Home Shield for a claim, I need to be sitting in front of a TV and put the phone on speaker phone all the time. The contractor that we had the last time seemed to be knowledgeable and knew what he was talking and doing. And on that particular problem, he realized that it wasn’t a circuit board but it was the breaker. I thought that was a pretty good catch because he could’ve easily said it was a circuit board and charged AHS for the circuit board. We didn’t go any further and he diagnosed it correctly but I fixed it.
We have been dealing with American Home Shield for a long time that I have my mom’s and my home at one time. The only thing I didn’t like with AHS is they hire cheap contractors and we got what we paid for. The last time we had a problem with the electrical of the dryer, it was absolutely terrible and Ben’s Electrical did not figure out the problem. We told him that we thought it was an electrical problem, so he checked it and said everything was okay. We already had an electrical board go out on us a while back so when we called the dryer guy up months later, the dryer guy says that this problem has happened over and over and it was too coincidental. It was the electrical going to the circuit board. So, Ben couldn’t figure it out but the dryer repair guy did.
Now, if we have to call someone for electrical, we don’t even want to call AHS because Ben’s Electrical didn’t know what they were doing. I felt that Ben was out there for the $75 deductible even though he didn’t fix any work for us before. I still got a plug at my house that doesn’t work and that he allegedly fixed. But now, AHS has been sending better contractors. I liked the new contractor we used for the air conditioning because if the same repair person comes out more than once, he knows what’s going on. I’m satisfied and the $75 a month is not a bad deal as all the stuff has been covered. AHS replaced a dryer, dishwasher and an ice maker in my refrigerator. I recommend them all the time.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the wait time was horrible. Anytime you have to wait on the phone over 15 minutes is long for me, but I went 45 minutes and it was ridiculous. They hang up and then they do an hour, sometimes they hang up and try to do a callback. They need to hire some more people. I got a lady now who's waiting on American Home Shield. She just moved here from out of town and she hadn't gotten service. She's been calling for service but she hadn't gotten it. And she said, she had wait times hours too long.
Their staff was professional and they treated me okay, especially the ladies from Tennessee. However, I wasn’t happy with the contractor that they sent out here. He wasn't the best and wasn't professional at all. He came to my house was delayed. He was very incompetent and unknowledgeable. When he came out here, he said, "I don't have equipment with me that I need. All I have is an old thermostat." I said, "Why don't you go get a new one?" And he said, "I don't have any money." It’s 10 degrees outdoors and I have to wait. He said that I needed a new thermostat, which I still do not have. When he came here the second time, he still was unprofessional.
I asked the AHS rep, “Who can you send out here to check out to make sure your thing is okay?” And she said, "They'll probably send him." I said, "I hope not. And do I have to pay another fee?” She wasn't sure. But I need someone to come out here because when you cut the furnace down, it'll get hot in the house to a certain temperature. The three young men that came after were okay, but I don't consider the heating issue as working properly and I don't want to have to pay another fee. I tried to deal with these four contractors out to my house in one week. American Home Shield needs to get rid of them or hire somebody else. I got another man fixing my doorknob but I didn't call American Home Shield because I didn't want to go through any more hassle. American Home Shield is decent with me, but that was the worst experience I've ever had with them.
When the rep called back, sent me an email and told me that I owe them money, I told them I had paid. And then they kept calling me and they sent me another letter so I paid them. And then when she finally got it straight down until it was paid, I said, “Did you send me a letter and tell me it's been paid?” She said, "No, we don't send out letters.” But the lady from Tennessee called and let me know that the tech had verified that he had encashed the check. Then I sent my bank statement part of that cut out to let them know that the tech had cash to check. They said it's resolved and that I may get another letter stating that they take two or three weeks to get it out straight down. I don't know why it would.
They also told me I’d be getting another letter sent that I owe them. I said, "I hope not because I paid the whole thing before.” They got my check November and it is almost January. They also won't even answer the phone for a long time. The techs left some of their equipment out here and I called before the techs got around the corner but they didn't answer. I let them know that the techs left their equipment here but the techs never came back and picked it up.

I’ve had American Home Shield for many years now, and I’m possibly quitting them. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield's website in mid October 2017. Once we set the date, the contractor arrived on time. He was not able to fix my washer. He had to order some parts. The parts arrived after three weeks. The contractor came back and replaced the parts. However, most of the settings on the control panel are not in sync and others don't work. It was already mid November, I called AHS again to report the status on my washer and, after 2 hours or so of waiting on the phone, they assigned a different contractor.
The story starts one more time. He arrived on time at the end of November. He was not able to fix my washer since the parts that were replaced initially were defective and he had to order them again. I have been calling the contractor and AHS every week to find out when they are going to fix my washer and I always receive the same answer “the part doesn't arrive and we have to wait”. It is January 2nd 2018 and I am still with no washer. That is beyond of so unacceptable. I am trying to contact AHS today and I am on the line for 2 hours now waiting for a representative to assist me.

Our refrigerator went down on 12/22. AHS dispatched a repairman who showed up without the correct tools. He promised to return on 12/26. We didn't hear from the company until 12/28 when they said they couldn't return until 1/3. I spent 56 minutes on hold with AHS until I could speak with someone (they have no way to email them). Another company was dispatched who quickly diagnosed the problem and informed us the cost of a repair was greater than the value of the refrigerator, and they would have to communicate with AHS as to the next action taken. Today, five days later the AHS website instructed me to call the repair company to schedule an appointment. When I did I was told AHS was looking for a part to repair the fridge. I then spent 2 hours and 25 minutes on hold with AHS without being able to speak with anyone. We have been without a refrigerator for 11 days now.

It has been 2 weeks now. The technician came and didn't even bother to open the microwave. Just "listened". For that I paid ALREADY $125. The microwave is not fixed. I tried to call the company probably hundreds of times- never was able to get through. This is my 3rd attempt calling AHS. The previous times I got very generic replies ("Oh! don't worry, it will be fixed! Oh, we are so sorry, we certainly understand").
I specifically requested to call me back with updates- nobody bothered. First time I waited 45 minutes on the line, second ~ 40min. Now I am still waiting- 2 hours!!! Nobody replies and I am waiting on the line for 2 hours now!!! It is a ridiculous service for such a simple appliance. I have probably covered 50% of a new microwave only paying for the service call, for service I still haven't received. It should have been either fixed or replaced by now. I was ALL the holidays with kids at home without microwave. Horrible service, a nightmare, literally... I expected a much better one when I signed up.

I have called AHS about 12 times for either a question, or to inquire about getting service. Regardless of the day; regardless of the time; the wait time to talk to a "live" person on the phone is ALWAYS over an hour. ALWAYS. How can this be? On the flipside; here's a funny story. When calling for service today, I entered my number when prompted for a "call back for assistance." I got a call back in less than 5 minutes!!
Of course, the person who called me was only able to SELL me a contract, or sign me up!!! When I told him I needed assistance, he tried to give me the Customer Service number; which of course means I would have to call them and wait ANOTHER on the phone. When I asked him to have Customer Service "call me back" as per the option I choose; he said he could not! AHS is only allowed to "call out" when they are seeking a sale or a new customer. If you are a current customer and want them to call you back or help you, you are S.O.L. I can't wait when they call me back and ask me to renew when my policy expires!! No way Jose.

Worst experience ever! I have been with AHS for a few years, as a new homeowner the idea of having appliances covered by a warranty on an older home sounds amazing. Though when a few years go by and the water heater stops working you think, "Wow, it’s a good time to call that in." The contractor shows up gives it a look and then says it needs to be replaced. A sigh of relief, I am covered since I have a warranty… Oh wait. There are uncovered expenses the contractor tells me, it will be about $500 out of pocket, but he will have to get with AHS to report it first. Sure enough I get a call from authorizations and they break it down. We have authorized the replacement of your water heater though there are some uncovered costs. A disposal fee = $60, a pipe modification = $250, code enforcement items $60 for a drain pan, and $60 for a shutoff valve upgrade, and $100 to pull a permit.
When I saw reference to code enforcement, I call my county building inspector 1st to ensure this contractor is able to pull a permit in my county, and secondly to get a confirmation of these required by code items. Summary of the code enforcement the drain pan is required if the water heater is on level elevation with the home, in my case the water heater is 8 inches below, so not required (plus I already have a pan, the contractor states it will be damaged when they remove it). 2nd the shutoff valve, to be in line with code it cannot be a ball valve, it must be a gate valve which resembles a spigot that would be found on outside water valves which I had. I call contractor. Dispute the need for the 2 code enforced items, as well as advise I don’t want THEM to dispose, and after researching the pipe modification he insisted was necessary.
Advised that water heaters pipes are 8 inches apart on every model he could possibly bring which matched my current water heater, confirmed with a few other plumbers that same fact though he would not budge on performing pipe mod or enforcing code… When I asked him to give me a reference # to the code he was attempting to enforce he told me to contact AHS and ask for a payoff instead of working with him. Informed AHS of this impasse with their contractor and they offered me $460 and change to go to another contractor, asked what the breakdown of that $460 was and they explained it was $530 minus $75 and then their calculations of non-retail rate for a water heater and the expected cost to get it replaced... WAIT what? Minus $75. You already took $75 for the service call for the guy to come and say he can’t fix it… Their response is that they have to pay that technician for his time and that is being deducted from my offer.
When I asked why don’t you use the $75 you took from my credit card to pay him instead of deducting from my cash out offer? "Oh that is just how we have always done it. We have to pay the contractor for their time since that is the law." I can’t argue paying him, but don’t take it away from the value of my cash out because he was unwilling to install a water heater without attempting to scam me out of nearly every line item in my contract that is an uncovered expense. If he would have repaired the water heater he would have been paid the money you deducted and that’s all, but now that they are cashing out because they only have that one scammer contractor to work with me and don’t want to send a proper working contractor that will get the job done without seeking to line their pockets beyond the covered items.
Now I have to wait for the dispute to their cash out offer to see where this goes. Oh and it’s not a real cash out… I have to find another contractor pay them to get the work done out of my pocket, then if AHS agrees in its completion and terms they will pay me what they have offered. Either way I lose more money than it would have costed to replace the water heater myself, or have a contractor replace it since I have been paying AHS to do business with them already and they want to back out at every angle they can now that something is needing to be replaced. Wonder how AHS will attempt to weasel me out of more money?!

I first called AHS about my 17-1/2 yr. old garage door opener not working. This was after it didn't work and then it did work and then didn't work. They contacted someone to come look at it and when they came told me they were told by AHS to fix it, not replace the old motor. I had to wait a week for a new "CB". This worked for 1 week only (to the day). I had to pull the red rope and disconnect from the motor to close the door manually. I called them again and when he came back and it hooked it back up, it started working again. The guy from the repair company told me that when a motor is dying, it will work and then not work. I know this is true because that is how other dying motors/batteries work. This can go on for some time. This is reason enough to go ahead and replace the motor. YOU CAN'T FIX A DYING MOTOR!!
After the new "CB" was installed and the garage door would not close again after 1 week and because when he came back and hooked it up to the motor, it started working again, nothing was done. One week later (to the day), it stopped working again. I called AHS again (one hour to get someone on the phone!!) and they said they would call the repair people. NO one called. I called the repair company direct and was told the last time they came, it was working. I told them it is not working now. I was told the repair guy would call me back but he didn't. Again I call AHS and it was well over an hour to get someone on the phone. The rep (Phyllis, I believe) called the repair company and said they would come Jan. 2nd. This means about another week without my garage door opener. I specifically asked the rep (Phyllis) what they will be doing when they come to my house and she said they WILL REPLACE THE MOTOR.
I said thank God! Today, Jan. 2nd, the repair guy said he was NOT told to replace the motor!!! I am DISGUSTED!!! He called AHS and they told him they did NOT tell me that he would replace the motor. THEY FLAT OUT LIED TO HIM!! OBVIOUSLY THEY HAD LIED TO ME TOO!! When he came today, he hooked it back up and it started working again so he can't do anything.
I am disgusted. It will happen again! I am trying to call AHS and of course, this lousy company takes forever to get through to them. What lies will they tell me now? At this point, I have paid my $80 copay and I have a garage door that only works off and on!!! This is one SCREWED UP CHEAP, RIPOFF BUSINESS!!! I told them I want my $80 copay back and my last premium. I was told I can't have my $80 back even though I have a garage door that only works parttime!!
SAVE YOUR MONEY people! Do not sign up with this ripoff company! I have been with them for yours. MAYBE, if you are lucky and if you are new to them and need their services, you will get good service in the beginning while they suck you in, but after that, FORGET IT!! You will be treated like garbage!! DON'T FALL FOR IT!!! Below is asking for an Order number. I am not sure what that means. I have a Dispatch number **, if that means anything. He indicated they would return this Tuesday. No one showed up Tuesday AM so I called American Home Shield. I was on hold for just under two HOURS, before I finally hung up. I then tracked down the actual repair company and found they had not rescheduled anyone to come out. Eventually they set up an appointment for this Thursday, a week after I first called American Home Shield. WHAT LOUSY SERVICE ALL THE WAY AROUND.

I use to love AHS... but service has gotten horrible over the years. I'm sitting with an oven/stove that doesn't work for over 4 months. Contractor said he would come back with the part (haven't heard from him) and received notice from AHS that the repair was complete. Tech said part wasn't even available. Tried calling several times recently and sat on hold for over 45 minutes each before giving up (message said 10 minutes… but no answer). I may be looking to move to a different home warranty service company in the near future.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service to have your oven repaired and the hold times you have experienced. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve the ongoing issues.

I waited on hold for AHS to answer for 1:30 minutes to check status of claim before hanging up. I called assigned plumber to check with them, to only get an answer machine. They were apparently closed for the weekend and New Year holiday. What value is in this arrangement for me? I have a broken, leaking sink, and pay $1200.00 year (coverage for 2 homes) for a non-responsive service and warranty company?
Suffice to say this arrangement is not working out for me. When something is broken, intentional effort to get it fixed expeditiously provides not only satisfied return customers; it provides peace of mind. I feel foolish for paying this much money for this long to have terrible execution on AHS's part. I feel AHS is too big and too profitable to care about their paying customers. Buyers beware!

We've had AHS since we bought our home in 2014. We have had to call several times for things for be repaired. It's always fun to have to pay the deductible even though a part is not covered. Currently I am waiting for a call from a repair company to set up the appointment I was promised was going to be expedited quickly. We (myself, husband, child) have had no heat since midday on New Year's Eve. The temperature outside has been hovering in single digits, windchill in the negatives. I was told that they would expedite my request quickly. It's now 11am 2 days later and I haven't gotten a call. I even called AHS and sat on hold for 58 minutes before I was hung up on (a few minutes ago). This has been an ongoing problem for 2 years. What exactly is considered an emergency? I thought this was pretty close. Happy I pay you guys every month for awesome service.

On Thursday, December 28, 2017, we woke to no heat. Immediately called AHS to report problem, waited over hour before we spoke with someone. Told that a contractor had been assigned the problem & we would be getting a call from that local contractor - he paid the required service fee by credit card that day to AHS. Called back 5 hours later since the contractor had not called yet and was told that the contractor has 24 hours to contact us once case has been assigned but we could call him directly ourselves. We did just that but both the business # & cell phone # pushed us to voicemail with message that mailbox is full & then hung up on us. So on Friday, Dec 29, I tried AHS again but to no avail - my first call on hold for over 1.5 hours and just when it seemed like we were being connected to an operator the line was disconnected.
We called back & waited another 1.5 hours but still no luck. So on Saturday, Dec. 30, I called first thing in morning and waited 1/2 hour before I spoke with someone. They confirmed that the local contractor was unreachable and that they would kick this up the chain to locate another contractor. I got a return call on Saturday afternoon with a name & phone # of a new contractor but I would not be receiving any service before Tuesday since it was a weekend and a holiday. So, this morning (Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018), I called the new contractor and was told that they had received a request for service from AHS on Saturday around 11:30 am but that it was cancelled 30 minutes later by AHS. They told me I need to contact AHS to re-establish the service request in order for it to be covered under my warranty.
I am now on hold with AHS for over 1 hour so far this morning in a house that is about 55 degrees and outside temperatures are 22 degrees with a heating problem I have had for 6 days and yet to even have someone come to the house and even look at the problem. I have had my warranty coverage for over 10 years and am stunned and appalled at how this request has been handled!

I discovered a broken water heater on Friday, 12/29 and submitted a request. Was assigned to a local business, but I did not receive a call despite my request being submitted during business hours on Friday. I called that plumber and they said they were booked for a week and to ask AHS to rebook with another contractor. Contacted AHS to see if I could be given a list of other local partners so I could have someone come out who does service over the weekend-no response from AHS. Contacted via Facebook and told them I needed this escalated and help getting another contractor out as I have water just leaking non stop, and no hot water if I turn off the water line. Was told my case would be escalated and someone would be contacting me. 3 days later I have not been contacted.
I logged in to check on my service request and found it was no longer there! So I resubmitted a request and now am assigned to yet another contractor who has yet to contact me. If I hadn’t checked on my service request nothing would have happened!! Unacceptable service-the last time I did not renew my warranty the AHS rep asked what they could do differently. THIS is what you can do differently! I still have not been contacted and am now going on day 5 with a broken water heater and no sign of an appointment in sight. Today I received a text that the contractor would call me in 24 hours to set appointment. Just logged in right now and now it says for ME to call the contractor-so which is it? I would have called them today!! Am I to log in every few minutes to see what I need to do to have this fixed? Disgraceful service and quite the runaround by a company I am paying to not have to deal with things like this.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your water heater repaired through your AHS warranty. I would be glad to further assist you in getting the repairs completed.

I called AHS and put in an order for my kitchen sink as the faucet was leaking and the toilet was wobbling back and forth. This problem started three months ago. They called up a company to come and fix it. They sent this big, old guy that had no shirt on with tattoos all over him. He told me who he was and came in. He couldn’t find the name of my faucet so I could call the home warranty and have them send me another faucet. The reason he couldn’t find anything was because he was too big to get down under the sink. I’m big myself, but in that job, he’s going to have to bend a bit. This whole time, this man was walking around my whole house looking at everything, to the point where I got so nervous that I called my husband. I kept my husband on speaker phone while the guy was here.
This man went and sat in my bathtub to try and fix my toilet. He told me that AHS was not going to pay for this issue. I asked why not and he said that he had put this claim several times to them and AHS never paid for it. I told him that if they wouldn't pay for it, then I should talk to the supervisor so I could tell them, and he agreed. When he came back, he said that he was going to do me a favor as he talked AHS into paying for the repair. But I told him that he wasn't actually doing me a favor because AHS was going to pay for it since I pay them every month. Then he had to come back next time since he didn't have the parts to fix the toilet. It took another three weeks before somebody showed up. That whole time, water was leaking from my faucet and my water bill was going higher.
The next guy came and it took him 5 minutes to fix the toilet and recaulked it back in. He went to the kitchen sink and found the name on there and told me who I needed to call to get it replaced. However, he had another faucet with him which was made out of a thin material. I knew that was going to be broken since what I had was heavy and I got seven kids. So I called and talked to AHS and they said to tell him to put the faucet he had temporarily until I got the other one sent in. Then, they would send him back out to reinstall the new one. He was pissed that he had to do it since he was in a hurry. He was hammering, hitting and throwing stuff. He got the temporary faucet in and then he left.
My parts finally came in and I called AHS, then they called that company back. That morning, I got up and took everything out from underneath the sink, put it on the floor and I saw that there was water underneath my sink. It was coming out of a valve. When the man got here, he noticed that there was water everywhere. I told him that it was probably from all the hammering and stuff he did and knocked it loose. Maybe it needed to be tightened up so he should check it out. He sat outside on his phone, trying to get a hold of AHS. He was out there for two hours to finally get someone on the phone. Then he got back in here and he told me he had the lady on the phone. The lady said we had a work order to put the faucet in but there was no work order for the valve.
I told the guy that it just needed to be tightened up. Then the lady said that all she saw was that they’d been going back and forth with this for a long time, and I agreed with her. I even had supervisors calling me and nothing had gotten done yet. She told the guy to go ahead and put that valve in that same work order and they’d work it out with his people. But he said he had to have two separate work orders. Then she said to fix the valve and put the faucet in also. He went outside, continued to talk to her, and then he got pissed off then hung up on her. He came back in the house and told me that he was only going to fix the valve today since that was all I got a work order for. But I told him that he didn’t know anything about the valve so why couldn't he fix the faucet like he was told to in the first place.
He put the valve and another one on. I asked him if he was serious and told him to let me get AHS on the phone quickly. He then jumped up and started throwing all his tools in his bag and told me that he didn't care if I got them on the phone. I told him to get out of my house, and he walked out. When my husband got home, he turned on the hot water. It was not working in the kitchen. He squeezed them together down there but didn’t open it back up for the hot water when he changed the valve out. My husband got down there and fixed that part. But, I'm still sitting here with a faucet that came in to be put and hasn’t been done yet. I called AHS and the lady on the phone said that she would get back with them and see if they could come back out here to get the faucet fixed. We told them not to send the same guy out as he was not welcome in this house with the way he was talking to me, and she said yes.
She called the supervisor, e-mailed the company and told them that the man needed to finish the job. I called and talked to the lady that’s overseeing dispatch. I had been talking to her forever on this. She and I get along fine and I told her what happened and that I'm still here with a faucet that is not done since he said it wasn’t on his work order, which was what he was initially supposed to come out here to do. She told me that she would get with the owner and would call me right back, but, she never did. They haven’t finished handling the repair. The real problem I have with AHS is the wait to get to talk to somebody, which is ridiculously long. They either need to hire more people or get a receptionist. It’s terrible.

Once you file your claim with American Home Shield, make sure that it is fixed in 30 days. It's because I had previous repairs to my stove. And then I had a bad contractor who came in and never did the job. When I called American Home Shield, they acted as if I never filed a claim. I was really starting to drop them at that point but I didn't want to have to start all over again. So I decided to keep them and AHS had somebody else to do the job. But when I called them to ask what's taking so long to get a part for my stove, AHS pointed to the contractor. And I kept calling and calling. It took a whole year to get the stove fixed.
They use these cheap contractors that come in, check it up, and tell you they will order the part. It does not take six months to get a part ordered. So far, the stove is fixed now and the person who came was wonderful. He ordered the part and he had it in seven days. Overall, while American Home Shield is an okay company, I won't give them good. They had me on hold for too long to speak to a customer service rep. And then once you get through, somebody hangs up on you.

I've had AHS since I bought my house in 2012. There were horrible things that happened in the house and they've always been great. Everyone was very professional and they have always taken care of the problem. I recently had an issue with the AC unit and their people came out and fixed it. Now the AC is working great and it’s very cold.
When I sold a house, the person who bought the house got a year of Home Shield due that sale. I also got a year of AHS in my new house and I've since now renewed it. But AHS never shut off the warranty on the other house, so I was paying for the warranty that the buyer of my old house already had. I paid that up until May of this year. It was hard to get through to someone at AHS about it and when I finally did, they told me to send them a closing statement of the house to prove that I had in fact closed on December 30, 2016, then they would return the money that I overpaid. Since then, it has been extremely difficult to get a hold of their people. And when I did, they put me on hold and said the wait time could be up to 45 minutes. But when I did that once at work and once at home, I was on hold for almost two hours, multiple times. It's like a purgatory of holding time and that was very displeasing. Also, this issue has not been fully resolved until today.
Despite that little incident about the hold time, I highly recommend Home Shield to anyone. The cost ratio of what I spend a year to what AHS could save me with regard to fixing things, is awesome. Their policy is very inexpensive at $500 or $700 a year. For $75, I could have three garage door openers fixed. But at any given time, I could have $500 to spend on the garage openers if I didn't have AHS.

Our AC wasn’t working the way it was supposed to and it started leaking. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was very easy. I called them, explained what was going on, and they sent a gentleman named Alex, from ANR Air-conditioning. He explained everything he was doing and he figured out that the problem was with the heating unit. The whole process took about a month because he had to get an approval. And he had to order some parts because I have an older furnace. Three weeks after he put it back in, we got a little bit of a cold at the house so I called AHS back and they sent Alex right back out and he fixed it. He knew what was going on and he was fantastic. I’ve already talked to people about getting AHS and they’re planning on starting it because they have somebody else where they have a lot of problems.

We had a microwave that we needed to replace. I called American Home Shield and they sent out a person from GE who looked at it, said it was too old to fix and there were no parts and then, he left. I waited for a few weeks and he never turned in any report to American Home Shield. And so, I told American Home Shield. Two or three weeks later, they said that they were going to get somebody out. They purchased the microwave and had a company that delivered things come out and put it in. It took me almost two months to get that microwave. The other times that I have with American Home Shield were very good. This one with the microwave, on the other hand, was very bad, but it ended up good. It’s a good deal and American Home Shield's a good place.

My air conditioning's capacitor was damaged and the technicians that American Home Shield sent fixed the job quickly. Plus, they were very informative. They let me know what was going on. Another time though, for the same issue, the contractor took two weeks to get back with me. It was irritating because I had family over and, unfortunately, the air conditioner wasn't fixed. But I would still recommend American Home Shield. It has been a good experience with them overall and I definitely plan on remaining a customer.

I had an experience with a plumbing claim where it just went back and forth between American Home Shield and my homeowner’s insurance in trying to figure out who will pay for what. The American Home Shield people that I talked to tried to help me out the best they can but the issue was with the administrative part. There was a lack of communication, and getting the paperwork processed felt like forever. But their contractors were fine and we haven’t had any issues with American Home Shield in the past. The plumbing issue was just one of those hiccups that stick in your brain, but it doesn’t mean that we’re not going to stay with them. There are other cheaper options but sometimes the grass looks green on the other side of the fence, but it isn’t.

I had a heating issue that had something to do with the blower motor and I called it in because I like to actually talk to a representative. The reps always seemed very nice and they were concerned about what was going on and they quickly transferred me to the contractor who seemed to know a lot about what to do. American Home Shield had put in the motor a few years ago, and they said that it was still covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. So, they were able to get the part sent from the manufacturer who must’ve paid the same repair person because the contractor handled it for me. I’ve had American Home Shield for about 18 years now, so obviously I’m pretty satisfied.

I've been using AHS for about a year and recently, I had a claim about a plumbing issue. The thing that keeps the tank of my toilet close when I flush it wasn’t working properly for a week already. I called AHS and they listened to my complaint. They made sure that it was covered under the warranty then they set us up with a local plumber who came and took care of it. The plumber ended needing to replace the part which he had in stock. Sometimes, I pay upfront but at that time, AHS billed us later and I paid the deductible online.
I've filed several claims with AHS before and whenever I speak to their reps, most of my interactions were positive. Even when we had a major claim, things went pretty smoothly. Our air conditioner wasn't working and it turned out that the condenser was broken. And so, they ended up needing to replace that part. However, the company AHS asked to come out was in the Magnolia area which was in Southwest Houston. They weren't able to come because it was the day that Hurricane Harvey was hitting. It ended up delaying the process a bit but that was an extreme situation. But other than that, things have always worked out fine after a repair and everybody I've interacted with through American Home Shield has been really great. It seemed like AHS vetted them really well.

The most recent claim we submitted to AHS was for a plumbing issue. The contractors who came had to come back because the faucet didn't stop leaking. They came back out after I've called the very next day, and fixed it up. The contractor AHS sent for plumbing was pretty good. The only problem I've ever had with American Home Shield was when we had an air conditioning problem a couple of years ago. It took two weeks to get our air conditioner fixed in our house in Las Vegas. It was 103 inside, and our little baby daughter was there. It was pretty bad. The electricians had to order parts from American Home Shield and American Home Shield just dragged your feet up in getting parts especially that was a hot summer in July in Las Vegas.

We bought an older home and so we thought that having American Home Shield was a good thing. I used to always call the 800 number and I was on hold for a long time. And it all depends on the weather, like when we had issues with common times where a lot of people had storms and I needed things looked at, it would take 45 minutes. I'm not the one that wanted to use computers but I thought I'd try it, and so I did the last few times and it's a lot quicker.
When we got our new water heater, I thought it was going to be whatever we had, but we found out that it was an older model. And so, because it didn’t meet the standard, we’re going to have to pay more than just the $75 fee for the service call. The rep that was here from the company that was doing the water heater said that a someone would call and explain it to me. And then my phone rang and the representative that I talked to referred me to a certain article and sentence number. He said that we had to pay more because the older unit wasn’t up to the code. I started laughing because I didn’t read the fine print. We had to have a new water heater, but how does that equate? Why do we have to pay more? It didn’t make any sense to me. In the end, it cost us $800 and we paid half of the cost of the gas water heater.
We had another issue when our vent fan over the stove stopped. The company called All In One kept me informed that a part had to be ordered and the contractor told me that right up front. He thought he might have one on his truck so he asked me for the model number the day I first called and they scheduled to come out the next day. Turns out, they were out of that particular part. They told me that that was the time of the year when a lot of people are baking and that element goes out. But he had 20 of them on order and when he got it, all he had to do was pop it in.
Overall, the people that we worked with through American Home Shield have been great. Although the water issue where we ended up having to pay half of the unit was a disappointment, we had the money to pay for it. It would have been a real shock to somebody who didn’t have the means to be able to do that. I told relatives and friends who asked me about American Home Shield to give it a try and see what their experience would. I also told them to read the fine print.

My dryer wasn't getting hot. I went to AHS' website to submit a claim and it was easy doing it. They sent a technician and he was hands-on in explaining to me what went wrong, what parts he was going to order and what the next step was. I had to have them come back out and it was just as good. On the other hand, they sent me an email about an item that I had submitted for repair, that it was going to be replaced but it was confusing on how they wanted me to respond. They were asking for a lot of information and a lot of stuff was redundant. Even though they sent the email, I'm still going to have to call them and have someone to walk me through it. Other than that, their service was wonderful and my dryer now is working great.

My garage door pipe needs screws and adjusting and I was very happy because American Home Shield covered its motor. Also, the guy who came was pretty good. The other time that I used AHS was for the air conditioner on my rental home and townhome, and the contractor had to come back about four times to fix it. The last time they came, they just filled the freon. I paid an additional $500 and I wasn't too happy with that one.
Also, whenever I call AHS, it takes about an hour of wait to get a person on the line. I know they can do computerized appointments, but I always want to talk a person in explaining to them what's up so I don't have to re-explain and they can send the right guy. If they could improve that, it'll be good. They have been increasing the deductible. It's $120 every time they come whether it's for a minor repair or not but I'm contented with that. I have been with American Home Shield for a long time for two houses that I have and, so far, it's okay. I'm staying with this company.

I'm a realtor, and I sell AHS. I turned in my washer and my dryer and somehow, it showed the cracks that I had turned into. When I called it in, things were all automated, but the lady who helped me went above and beyond. She and the contractors were very good. They only saw one issue, so they ended up having to come back and doing the washer separately. The tech replaced a valve on the washer and fixed that yesterday, so we're good. He checked it as far as he could, but he said that it would have to run an entire load through. He told me to let him know if it wasn't working correctly and he'd come back. We've run one load through and the softener didn't dump during the load. When my daughter opened the drawer, it dumped down, so we're going to try one more load through and see how it does. If I say pay later, they're still requesting the credit card. Today, the guy called twice and told me he was on his way. He left his tools someplace, and when I called, I was told that the plumbing place that he’s coming from had to put the appointment off because he was in an accident with a truck. We needed to replace the garbage disposal and it was fairly easy to file a claim to American Home Shield. However, it took three and a half weeks for them to replace it. We had to set it up again so the next guy came out and he was supposed to bring the 1 horsepower. He goes up to Home Depot to buy but Home Depot is out. He had to come back out a third time.
It took four different trips before they got it finally correct. Had AHS ask what type of horsepower I had before they came, all of that would have been solved. Our furnace started making grinding noises about 12 hours ago (sounds like a loose motor barring) and we submitted a request and paid for the service call through the automated system. When I contacted the contracted company - whom never contacted us - I was told that because the issue wasn't expedited that they could not come out until Tuesday. We are in a wind chill warning with temperatures of 20-40 below zero F through Tuesday afternoon. I don't like the idea of running a furnace with a loose barring or motor issue so I called the AHS customer service, waited over 2 hours and spoke to a woman that let me know she'd look into expediting the service order with the original company.
She called me back 1 hour later to let me know that the work couldn't be expedited by the original contractor and that she'd reach out to 3 other contractors. Two of those companies were reached while I was on the phone with her and they both could not expedite the work order. She was waiting on one additional company and placed the work order in a queue to find alternatives. She said if I did not hear from them (AHS and/or contractor) within 4 hours to call AHS to discuss the next steps. When I inquired if I could assist by notifying other options on my own, I was told that I could not hire on my own without giving AHS the opportunity to first find a contractor and the 4 hour window to do so. I called back per request and they are closed!
The wind chill outside is approaching 40 below F currently with a temp of -12 F and my family is crammed into one room in our home with space heaters because of this mess. We are now reluctantly running the furnace in hopes of bringing the temperature up inside our home before we go to bed this evening. If I had known AHS was going to provide deficient service, I would have called a contractor 12 hours ago and who cares about the warranty - I can afford a new furnace without the runaround.
I will say the lady I spoke to was pleasant and I won't fault her for this. She did call me back as promised and she let me know step-by-step what was happening in the moment and the next step after each call. I know that her hands are tied and I appreciated her pleasant nature. I do fault the company for not providing proper staffing for a non-automated work order and for a lesser wait time (I waited over 2 hrs for the two times I've called AHS). The promise of 24/7 needs to be adjusted. Yes, I can submit a work order at 2 am with the automated system when my pipes burst but it won't be expedited - whose fault is that? I also think allowances should be provided in situations that involve health and safety, including heating during wind chill warnings (just one example). I don't intend on purchasing a warranty with AHS in the future. What an unpleasant mess!

I call American Home Shield to file claims and they text me who the service provider is going to be, then the techs reach out when they're going to be there. It's a smooth process. Recently, our 20 year-old oven malfunctioned and wouldn't unlock. We had to shut the breaker off. The contractor that came had Yelp reviews that weren’t so good, but he did a good job and I'd have him back again. They were on time, neat and cleaned up after themselves. Plus, they kept us updated on when our part would be in.
So far, the work has been good but American Home Shield keeps on repairing the oven rather than replacing it. It's a waste of money and I suggest AHS looks at the larger picture. In our case, our unit is old and AHS should have given us the option if we wanted to repair it or have the money to replace something that would be comparable to the unit. American Home Shield is okay but we’re not sure if we’re going to renew because their prices keep on going up every single year which is ridiculous. They charge $85 for a service call when they come out plus over $800 a year. For that money, I could buy a new oven.

The front door of my front loading washer wouldn't close. So I filed a claim online and the technicians sent by AHS came out and fixed it. But they found another problem. Apparently, there was an issue with the circuit card. When they came back out to put a circuit card in it, they determined that there was something wrong with the washer drum. They said they were going to come out the next day to fix that, but they didn’t, so I had to get a hold of the contractor that was working on it. They apologized for not getting back with me, and they sent a master repairman out who determined that it was going to take several hours to repair. So they referred it to American Home Shield to determine if they were going to repair it or replace it. So that was the process of how that contractor determined what all the faults were, and for each problem, they had to wait for the necessary parts.
I ended up having to take my laundry to the Laundromat for several weeks and I'm still doing so because American Home Shield called back and said that they were going to replace my washer but the washer they wanted to replace mine with was not going to be available for a couple more weeks. So I asked if I could just buy my own washer and for them to reimburse me.
I have American Home Shield for several years now and I never had any major problems. But they should set a certain amount of visits before they could say that something needs to be replaced. I had an air conditioner and I don’t know how many times they had to come out before they determined that it needed to be replaced. Despite these, I had good experiences with them so I always recommend them. When I called American Home Shield to file a claim for the electricals of the pool fountain, the reps were straightforward. They took all the notes and dispatched the contractors. The contractors came on time, diagnosed it and told me what the issue was. They were professional. But they had to wait four weeks for the parts. They fixed two out of the three problems. AHS kept debating with me on the third problem on what was covered and not. I told them, "You guys are assuming the salt cell system is not covered, which is fine. What I'm telling you is the electrical panel is the problem.” But they wouldn't agree, so they haven't fixed the third part of the problem. It was only because American Home Shield does not authorize it and not because the contractor can't do it.
The pool isn’t working until now because without the salt cell electrical fixed, the salt doesn't get generated, so there's no chlorination in the pool. I'm having to do it manually right now until I find the problem and fix it because American Home Shield does not want to fix it. On other little things, AHS have all been fine with the claims. I was without heat for a week. I've been with American Home Shield for years and it took a long time before they switched over to another company which I could do after a week when it's the winter time and there's no heat in my house 24/7. The people came out here four different times. The first one said it was a loose screw. Another guy came out and checked something else and refigured the thermostat on the wall but it didn't work. When the fourth guy came, he took the board and said that it had a little spot on it so they’re ordering another one. He didn't sound like he was sure that was the problem. The other guys didn't solve the problem but at least they looked like they were sure it was the problem. The fourth guy wasn’t encouraging at all and wouldn't answer well, not even when we had to order.
I had to call AHS and that's when they offered me to send them the receipt. The contractor tried to get some heat and at that time, they told me that it would be in Friday. I had to pay for the overnight but they probably weren’t going to order again, so they told American Shield that they couldn't overnight it. Then the fifth time they came was with the parts. American Home Shield should have stepped in before that but then, they said that they would get heater after about the third day and that they would give me a hundred dollars just to stay heated.
On the other hand, the claim representative was very nice. She was very helpful and seemed concerned. She said she would try and get someone out. But I had to go back and look because I had all the papers. They called that day and the contractors almost came out later that day or the very next one. However, every time they came out, we thought it was fixed, but then it would go right back out and I have to call again which cost me. The second time, I called the contractor but they said that I had to call American Home Shield, so I did and they sent the contractor back. From then on, I just called American Home Shield. But I'm here without heat just because they're telling me I don't have to pay anything, which isn't going to happen when it's cold and I'm 73 because I could get pneumonia up in here.
But so far, my heater has been working good but I'm not sure if it's working a hundred percent. And it seems odd to me because before, if I turned it up on 75, it would be burning up in here. Now, I'm turning on 75, even towards higher in order for it to start warming up. It looked like it's turned up on 75 but it was not coming on, then eventually it does. I also used to just keep it set at 72 because I don't like it to be changing around, but they can't stay at 72.
Some years ago, I encouraged people, even both of my sisters, to get American Home Shield. But then, at this point, I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I did. I'm tired of reaching out to American Home Shield. They've been out here many times and it wasn't really a good experience. I'm definitely dissatisfied with them.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that you endured to have your heat repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

But the reps are very nice and helpful when I get them on the phone. Recently, I had to call AHS because my furnace went out. The experience went very well with the contractor and the furnace has been good since the repair.
I recommend AHS all the time and I tell people having AHS would be the best thing they’ll ever do. They can forget about waiting on a family member to come and repair some for them. Just pay a little upfront fee and someone will fix it. If it's not fixed within 60 days, they'll come back on the same money paid and then they'll get it fixed for you.

American Home Shield is definitely something I use and my experience with them is mostly positive. They get the qualified professional out to me quickly so I found a lot of value in it. The only negative is their customer service. It's something I didn't really care for once I try to contact them. I call them and they put you on hold for an hour and a half and it's crazy. It's one of the worst experiences. As long as you don't have to contact them, everything is good. I like sending emails and they gave me the whole, "Oh, somebody will get back to you." And nobody ever got back to me.
The issue ended up taken care of itself so it wasn't really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But you'd like to be able to call the company and get somebody on the phone if you have an issue especially somebody you've been doing business with for years. I've been doing business with American Home Shield for nine years now and that is an area for improvement for them. They're not some small fly-by-night company and they have a lot of customers. They should have a much better customer service operations provider.
My most recent claim was the day before Thanksgiving and we were cooking some food, getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner. The garbage disposal went out on me so things were stuck up and all that. It took them a few days to get somebody out because of the holidays but it was straightforward when somebody came. I'd definitely recommend it. There's good value because, in homes, there's always something going wrong so you would want to be able to have that insurance. That way you don't have to come out of pocket for thousands of dollars if the plumbing goes out or if the heating or air goes out. You can just pay $75 service fee along with the monthly rate. So you save a lot of money and it makes it very easy to have that peace of mind knowing that. Especially if you're not a handy person, you can call somebody and a trained professional is going to come and take care of it for you.

We're having a terrible time with AHS. On the 13th of November, they sent out a technician to look at our oven. The contractor told us that they cannot replace the part that we have. It's going to have to be rebuilt and that they'll send it off. AHS was supposed to contact us and ask us if we either want the unit to be rebuilt or if we want a cash settlement. However, I called them and I have been held two different times for over two hours each time and never got to speak to anybody. I've never experienced a situation where you cannot talk to a person.
The contractor that came here, however, was exceptionally nice. They were very confident and knew what they were doing. They told us that when the part is no longer available, they send it to the company. The company then rebuilds it, sends it back, and they come back and install it. They also told us that it usually takes 30 days but because AHS hasn't okayed anything, they haven't sent the part off. I don't know what's happening. It's Christmas and we don't have an oven.

My refrigerator was not cooling. I started a claim to AHS online but didn’t get a response. I called on the phone and they couldn’t get a guy out here. The GE repair guy was busy and I ended up waiting 10 days. I said I can't live without a refrigerator for that long and finally, they gave me permission to hire someone else. I hired a contractor and they were here the same day I called them. The ref was repaired and it has been fine since then. Although AHS paid off for the services of the contractor I hired, I’m quite dissatisfied with the experience. AHS should have other contractors to fall back on if they can’t get their prime guy.

We submit our claim online or over the phone. American Home Shield's site was very easy to navigate but it takes a long time to get a call back when you do it online. When you call, their average wait time is one hour but once you get someone, they are helpful. AHS replaced our refrigerator freezer and they had great guys who delivered it. Any claim we made in the past, whoever they send are usually really top notch.
One of the reasons we kept AHS was because it was more of a custom refrigerator/freezer. However, after a few years and you don't read through the contract, they changed it from full replacement to a cap of $3000. And it was a $10,000 refrigerator. We asked AHS about it and they said that that was what is in our contract and we just didn't catch it. Now, we know exactly what they cover and don't cover after that. So, people should always read the contract thoroughly each time they get a new one or learn the hard way. Overall, they are better than some of the other ones. They are satisfactory. They just need to work on their telephone reporting because that is the most frustrating part.

It was easy and fast submitting the claim for my heater through AHS' website. The technician was great that he went on a Saturday and took care of the problem. On the other hand, prior to the heater, I had an issue with the AC and AHS sent a contractor. The tech connected the AC but disconnected the heater, and I paid again which I shouldn't have. When another contractor was sent, I told him what happened and he made sure that both were working. Other than that, I like having AHS because it’s very convenient, fast and efficient. I have a rental property so, if something was to happen, I'd simply call somebody. As soon as I submit the claim online, I get a text within an hour. Most of the time, I get a phone call from the contractor, asking me what the problem is and when they are going to come and fix it.

The worst. The first time we called (about a week and a half ago) it was almost two hours on hold and then they forgot to submit the order to the electrician so we had to call back, wait again and have them actually send through the request. Problem wasn't fixed and so we had to call back today. Just spent 2.5 hours on the phone with them only to have a recorded message come on telling me they are experiencing an interruption in the phone lines and then hung up on me. Tried to submit a ticket online but it won't let me because there was a recent work order for the same work. Yes, there was. And it wasn't fixed. Which is why I am calling again. If this isn't just an outright scam, they are making it so difficult to get any money for repairs it just isn't worth it. Put the money spent on them in a savings account and use that when things break down - don't give them a dime.

I filed a claim for our kitchen oven over the phone with American Home Shield. They said the people who would be performing the service would be in contact with me. I asked for a follow-up phone number and they gave it to me. I was contacted within 24 hours to set up a time when they could come in and do the job. The contractor called and gave us a window, and then called within 15 minutes saying, "Hey, we're on our way." So, he was no problem. Our interaction was fine and there was no difficulty at all. He looked at it and said, "Oh well, this is going to be pretty simple." I said, “Great.” He was done in 15 minutes. It was one of those things that take specialized screws and stuff to put in that I couldn't handle. He fixed it in no time at all and was in and out of here very quickly. The oven works fine now.
We've had several claims with American Home Shield and everything has come through. We had an issue with our washer, which took several times out. But after the initial payment, everything was taken care of. So, other than the wrong people that couldn't do the job until they found the right person, it was fine. But I don't think that is American Home Shield's problem. We know now that we have a GE washer/dryer and it's a stack unit. If we ever have any problem with it, we will specifically ask for GE to come out rather than a generic home repair or repair person because I know that they have different companies that are on contract with them. When the GE guy came out, he found some problems and stuff that probably the other people couldn't find or were not really sufficiently accustomed to the GE product.
What we pay for a month is very fair for what American Home Shield covers. We live in a condo so there's some limited stuff because of the condominium as opposed to a regular house but we're very happy with them. I would recommend them if others wanted some protection at a very reasonable per month cost. It’s an initial $75 per visit and then after that, everything is covered. Several years ago, we had a washer and dryer. They could not get the parts repaired and they gave us a very satisfactory remuneration to go out and buy a new washer and dryer. So, we're way ahead of the game so far from what we paid them through the years. We're very happy.

It’s constructor’s thing but the granite was too thick. So, I got to talk to AHS customer service and see what they can do and then we start from there. Then I got a call from AHS saying that I owe the plumber. And I told them it was not fair. I didn’t call the plumber and I also told them what was wrong with my machine. They also said that if the washing machine guy did not charge me, then the charge would go toward the plumber. And I looked at my email and I saw where they were asking me for the payment. And when I asked why it would not be covered, he said that it was because he said so.
He left without doing anything so I had to call AHS again. I was on hold for more than an hour and a half every time I called them. And because they would not give me any reply, I told them to cancel my membership. They then said they would send out somebody else but I had to pay extra money for it. But I told them I was not going to pay one penny to them because of my experience. It went on and on for a few days and I wasted 10 hours of my time dealing with them with no good result. And then, they finally said they would cover it but they were going to get somebody else to do it. They sent a guy but I should also pay $1400 for the permit which was two times more than when I got the unit installed by somebody else. I was not going to accept that so we ended the whole thing there.

Then, when a new one was put into place, it was leaking. I called AHS and I told the reps the problem and they told me who they can send. They found someone close by quickly and they gave us the phone number. We called the contractor up and made sure that the appointment was set. In the third week of October, I had a plumbing issue and filing a claim for it with American Home Shield went pretty good. The technician was friendly and got here within 48 hours. Also, they were able to schedule when I was home so that was good. During another issue, though, in which my refrigerator was leaking, it took the people about a week and a half to fix it. That was unpleasant. When the technician came in here, I have to show him where the leak was. I’m the one that discovered where the leak was and he had the wrong part so he had to come back. That’s why the whole process took about a week and a half.
I’ve been with AHS for almost 10 years and I wish I’m able to choose my contractor instead of them picking because, sometimes, they’re not available. I usually submit my claims on the internet because the phone is a disaster with American Home Shield now. It’s a terrible service. When I first signed up, I could call and talk to a customer service rep within 10 to 15 minutes. Now, it’s literally over an hour, which is unacceptable. It’s very frustrating and has made me think about leaving. Lately I've been doing it online where you enter your contract, click the service and click the item involved, and that’s it. The problem is that you can’t request multiple items. If you have multiple plumbing issues, there’s nowhere to detail it so you have to talk to customer service. I’ve got two garage door openers and they’re both broken, so it's just one claim and I’ve got to call and physically talk to somebody so they can put the second claim in.
But anytime I’ve had a problem getting hold of somebody with requesting service or multiple items, the customer service department has been good. The contractors that I’ve had have all been very good as well. With the appliances, I typically have the same company, though not necessarily the same person. Their work has all been good and I’ve had no issues. American Home Shield has a good selection of respectable contractors coming out, and I’d still recommend them.

The opener for my garage had broken and I had to do the claim online because I could not get a hold of anybody on the phone. It was over an hour hold and the only way you could get somebody is if you call like you were a new customer coming in but of course, they couldn't help you with anything. The website was user-friendly but I was really irritated because they wanted to charge my credit card automatically and I did not want to give my credit card information. I'm used to paying the vendor that actually comes. So I chose to pay for it two days after the service, in case something didn't go well.
In the past, I've been able to call in the concern and actually get a live person. A lot of people are going towards using the automated stuff but I am not one of those. For people who don't mind doing this online and not having a whole lot of service, the warranty works fine. But if American Home Shield can possibly go back to using the phone system for people who don't want to do everything online, that would be a nice thing. That aside, the vendor was very nice and the fix turned out to be really simple.

American Home Shield has been very helpful. They've been responsive when we have a claim. We submitted the claim over the phone and had a very pleasant interaction with the representative.
They came out, took care of it and were very professional. It turned out that we only needed one garage door replaced but it doesn't make sense to replace one and leave the other one which was 20 years old. American Home Shield wound up replacing both. We repaid the contractor for the other spring and American Home Shield reimbursed us for it. They've been here to repair our dishwasher twice but with the amount of money that they've put into that dishwasher, we could have bought a new dishwasher. This was the first claim I submitted since I’ve been with American Home Shield. I did it over the phone so I can get the names and places. There's an electrical issue with my doorbell and the other problem was with the dishwasher. The representatives were excellent and explained in detail that there will be two technicians who will come. Then, the electrician who came did a very good job of squaring the inoperative doorbell and the exhaust fan in the upstairs bathroom. He got both of them working.
Luckily by the time electrician had seen this, the problem with the dishwasher has been found, with the hose that had broken. I squared them away myself, so I would need a different one to make sure all is wrapped up and this man took care of the dishwasher problem himself. I'm glad I solved the other problem along with the dishwasher before AHS sent out the other technician. American Home Shield has been great up until last year. The person dispatched for my recent claim was helpful. He was very knowledgeable and very professional. However, I was dissatisfied with my previous claim for a replacement of an oven port. I tried to submit the claim online but it wasn’t easy. I wound up calling the claim to American Home Shield. I live in a house that was built in 59 so the wiring is old. There were a lot of issues and I have some outlets that don’t work. When I plug the microwave and toaster oven in the same plug at the same time, it flips the little safety switch in the outlet and shuts both of them. I’ve learned not to run both of them at the same time but the outlet burned out. I know how to swap outlets but because it’s an old home, I wanted to take precaution and have the other outlets fixed as well.
I submitted the claim and I told AHS that there were multiple outlets I wanted to be fixed but I wanted the oven port replaced. AHS said it was fine but they never passed the information to the repair guy. But he was able to change the oven port and left. I asked him through a text message about the other outlets but he told me he was only aware of the port being replaced. I paid 75 bucks for somebody to do something that I could do for about 5 or 10.
Also, I wanted to pay until after the port got fixed and AHS asked if I’d like to delay payment on my card for up to 48 hours. I said yes because I want to be sure it was going to be done. They wouldn’t process the claim and it kept saying that I’ll have to wait online for a customer service rep as the next available one will be after 30 minutes. I did it twice and I had one time that I waited a longer time but I never got a hold of anybody. That time, I did something different. I told them to just go ahead and immediately charge the card and when I did that, AHS processed the claim. That was unsatisfying and it made me shop around for another company.

The company, Cool Experts, found some kind of twisted copper wire. He also told me that I would have to pay for the Freon to recharge the entire system. I asked how much Freon would it take and he said 25 pounds. But in his report, he said I'm the one that came up with that number. I also asked how much was that going to cost me and he said $1500. He also said that they have to put their own Freon in which was a lot of BS because three companies that I hired prior took my Freon. I called the installer who came over the next day and he told me about drop-in Freon and it's about $200. So, AHS was going to make some money. I feel they should pay for the whole thing.
I asked the woman I talked to at American Home Shield how I could get access to the report, and she said, "Well, you can't unless you get a court order." I said, "I hope we can resolve this without needing to take this to court. Because I really don't like dealing with lawyers." I shouldn't have to hire a lawyer to do any of this. That's totally ridiculous. It was not yet resolved and I'm in the middle of it, and I've not heard from them in over a week. And, I'm not happy. I've been using them for 10 years on this house and then for around a couple of years on a rental house that I own. I pay every month, and it's over $600 a year. Plus, I pay them $75 when somebody comes out. They're supposed to replace something when it breaks.

Our microwave oven is not working even though the light was on indicating power supply. I submitted a claim to AHS and it was easy to do it online. Many times it frustrates me to call them. Every time I call, it was very difficult because they’ll put me on hold for an hour. It’s a nightmare if the repair work is not a straightforward one then I have to call and explain to them. As for the contractor that they sent out, he was good. He knew what the problem was and diagnosed it straight away. He changed the switch and everything was done within 15 minutes.

A burner quit working on our electric stove and I went online to fill out a claim with American Home Shield. It was easy and the site just asks what’s wrong and who made the appliance. The contractor was good and I liked him. He was knowledgeable and quick and he cleaned up the mess he made getting stuff on and off. The stove has been working fine since he repaired it. The same guy did some work for me before and the company he is from seems to be well informed.

I filed a claim recently with American Home Shield for the cooking stove. The control panel wasn’t working and it was shorting out and wouldn’t heat things. And the inside window of the oven was cracked. My daughter submitted the claim and it was a pain in the neck to get a hold of them. She was on the phone for an hour and 10 minutes yesterday, waiting for them to answer. We tried online and they were sometimes rejected and other times we got right through.
But most of the time the interactions with the contractors are good and they get a hold of us very quickly. The one company here in town usually comes the same day and gets it taken care of. A couple of them are about 60 miles away and take a day or two or a week to get here. Their work has been okay. If they didn’t get it repaired or fixed the first time they’d come back. But it gets frustrating when you’re on the phone for 20, 30 or 40 minutes, even up to an hour. They told my daughter it would be 30 minutes yesterday but took an hour and 10 minutes. They should improve on the operator. And sometimes in the bills they only pay a certain amount for Freon and people charge about twice as much for Freon as they allow, or three times as much and it would be nice if it was changed although I understand part of it too.

I thought I was going to have to put in a new water heater but the guy that American Home Shield sent diagnosed and took care of it immediately. Also, submitting a claim online for that was an easy process. I only had one bad experience with AHS, and it had been with my air conditioner. The company that they sent me was terrible. Their guy extended damage to my house. A leak occurred because he did some bad connection. It wetted up all my carpet and it leaked into my garage. It also bubbled up the sheetrock. He was supposed to come back and repair what he did wrong. He even put on my receipt that it was his problem and that he was going to take care of it but he never came back, and my problem is still here. Also, when I called, I was put on hold for over an hour. One time, the phone was hung up after waiting an hour.
But I've had some customer service that has gone above and beyond, wrote exactly what I'm telling them and felt very compassionate. One even gave me a room at a hotel because I was put out for so long. I have been very pleased with AHS as they have responded to my problem. The best thing I could have ever done is buy a program like that and I have recommended them to many of my friends.

My toilet broke and when I came downstairs, I had a leak coming from the ceiling. I thought it was the toilet so I went back upstairs and shut the toilet off. I called American Home Shield and they sent a plumber out but he was unable to find any problems. There was nothing showing that there were any breaks. The bathroom tub cut up a pin-head sized chip but I haven't showered that morning.
I called the neighbor across the street, who has a construction, to come over right away to make sure I'd shut everything off. I'm 75 years old and living alone so it was not like I abused anything. He went up on the ladder, looked and couldn't find anything. He thought, maybe the water has come back up and had no place to go, so it overflowed. The plumber thought it was the other thing in the trunk and my neighbor came over and took care of that for me.
I let it go for three weeks with an open hole that I covered with plastic in the event that it was going to happen again since nobody could figure out what caused it to start with. I didn't want to fix the hole and have it happened again. I called AHS back and they sent somebody out to put in plaster and tackle over it. At that time, my ceiling fan was where the water came out through. The light works but the fan itself doesn't. All I asked was if it was covered but they told me no because that would be a secondary.
They sent the plumber twice. One was to look for the leak to begin with and the second one was to do the dry walling and patch the hole. Both couldn't find anything and the second plumber covered it all up. It hasn't leaked again and it's been about two months, so it was just a fluke. Plus, the two guys that they’ve sent were absolutely fantastic. They did everything that they could to find what the problem was and they were very professional and nice. Now, I have to have somebody come out, sand and paint but they don't do that. But I would definitely recommend AHS. I had them for years when I had another home in Florida and I'm really satisfied with them.

The contractor who went here did a really good job and he cleaned right up afterward. He was prompt and worked straight through in a timely manner and did not waste time. About two weeks ago we had a leakage in one of our faucets in the toilet upstairs, so we requested American Home Shield to come and fix it. Their representative was very nice. She immediately said that she can have somebody come. I wanted it to be done as soon as possible, so she gave me two options and we picked up the first one that was available. The guy who came was also very extremely nice and efficient. He had to just remove a couple of things and put in a new gadget then the whole thing was fixed. He didn’t take more than 10 minutes to fix it. He knew his job very well and he even explained to me that it was something that I could’ve done myself. I was looking at it while he was doing it. It was indeed a simple process, but not being a handyman, I didn’t want to take that risk.
I’ve been with AHS for around two years and I’ve had about four claims and each one of them was resolved very quickly. The only problem I had is that every time I've had these issues, the problem we’ve had that needed fixed was a very minor problem and we ended up paying $75. It’s a little on the high side, but I also understand. Labor does cost a lot, but otherwise, this company has been pretty good. When I call them, I don’t have to wait too long for them to give me an appointment. Normally, it’s within the first two days, so I’m pretty satisfied and I would like to continue with the American Home Shield.

My tankless water heater wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield to do a claim. The contractor that was sent out did a great job. He was very good and that makes a big difference because I have parts that needed to be replaced and he knew all about every part and more. He would totally be the one that I call if I have any future problems.
I was completely satisfied with the vendor, but as far as the customer service that I received from American Home Shield, that sucked. Kevin had the biggest attitude and was the most unpleasant person that I’ve ever spoken to in a long time. After I spoke to him I had to request to be transferred to a supervisor, and then she finished the order and placed the call for the vendor to come out to see me. The rep was a negative representation of American Home Shield and if I only had to deal with him I would never have American Home Shield represent me or with their insurance in any capacity. I paid for the service so at least be cordial with me and take my order as it should be taken. The vendor redeemed American Home Shield’s credibility and if it wasn’t for the vendor I would totally go with a different company.

I'm a realtor and American Home Shield is one of our preferred vendors, and I have it for my personal use as well. Recently, my showers needed to be replaced because of a leak as one of those emergency shut-off things under my master bedroom had broken off. Submitting a claim online is fine except when you have more than one thing that you need them for. The website isn’t user-friendly for putting additional stuff and I have to call in to put the second item on. The categories they have under plumbing are fairly generic and it would be helpful if there was room for additional things under plumbing that you could actually write something in because I was on hold for over an hour to have that. And anytime I tried to call, which was rare, it's been a very long wait.
Nevertheless, the contractors that they sent out were good. I had a plumber from Pro Master and I was very happy with them. I had someone from an appliance company because I thought I had a problem with my dishwasher, and it turned out that there wasn’t a problem but I liked the technician that that company sent. I have referred three vendors to clients just to keep myself out of trouble with the vendors, and if anybody asks me if I use any one of them, I tell them that in my home I have American Home Shield. But I leave it at that because there's a thin line we walk.

The very first time I did it, it was Above & Beyond Plumbing and Tim, the owner, was awesome. My experience with American Home Shield has been fine but they raised my rates. I have a large home and I was paying $77 a month, and it went to $115. If I never had a claim, it probably would have stayed at $77, but I live in a home where my furnace and appliances are over 15 years old. With all the electronics these days, it's predetermined that those computer boards will fail. Then their phone services were terrible as it was always an hour late. But the contractors that they have sent out have always been fine. Recently, I submitted a claim for my stove which I had for 20 years. It was great and it was working until a part went out. There was no place to get that part, so I had to get a new stove. And then American Home Shield doubled my rates.
I stayed with American Home Shield as they offer services for pool heaters, pool pumps, and sauna. For a normal home, I would go with another company because they're so much cheaper. Another home warranty company is $40 a month for a regular home but it's just the basic stuff. That's why $115 ends up being a bargain for me. They will keep fixing and then there's not going to be a part of the air conditioner, so I get a brand-new air conditioner. And so, having a home warranty is a lot better than coming up with $2500 for an air conditioner. It’s like I'm pre-paying for my new appliances.

I had one HVAC claim that was a repeat problem and it happened on weekends when the temperature was 110 degrees and whenever I had family coming over. It was crazy. Once, we were having a family barbecue and my cousins were here with their newborn from California. That’s when the HVAC wasn’t cooling then it would work for a while and then something else would go wrong. By the things that were going wrong, the contractors should have known what the problem was and that it was a bigger thing. But they kept putting coolant in it. If the coolant keeps going away, that should have been the first clue that we have a leak. They were basically putting a band-aid on an artery. The HVAC unit kept failing and we needed to replace the system. For the new system, they were not the same company that I used. I went with somebody else.
That aside, I usually try to call claims in to American Home Shield and the reps are always professional and courteous. When my brand new furnace was not powering up, we didn't have any heat and it was scary. I have a little kid and we have pets so I was really concerned. It happened on a weekend as well but the contractors got out here quickly. It was within 48 hours and they were great. Evidently, something in the breaker box was blown and there wasn’t enough electricity getting to the furnace. There were some other little electrical problems besides that but the contractor was so knowledgeable. He showed me everything and he was so good that I would recommend him. I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 20 years and I’m not really impressed with them. I’ve noticed in the last five years that the people they are contracting are not very good, and the service has really gone down. Last time, I had a plumber come out, and he was horrible. I could tell he was just clocking time and wanted to collect as many, and then he didn’t fix the problem. I called American Home Shield and they had to call another plumber out. They fixed it in 30 minutes but it was a hassle to not have water and to not be able to use my account. I like having the security of American Home Shield with home ownership and the service hadn’t been that bad. I would call in and sometimes the contractors were good, unlike this last one. The young man that was with him was really nice but the older gentleman was rude. And then the second company that came out was just wonderful.
I’ve had cases where nobody would accept the job and American Home Shield would pay me so I could call who I wanted out because they couldn’t find people in a timely fashion. The wait time for a contractor to come out used to be 24 hours. Now, you’re lucky if you get it in three days, which is not acceptable, and if the contractor actually fixes the problem. American Home Shield has gotten worse especially in the last two years. They have no quality and I’m divided about canceling them. They caught the bottom of the barrel in the plumbing world and they need to have some quality behind who they send out. If American Home Shield is going to write their rights or charge more for the call, then let’s have more quality people in a timely fashion.

I write this as I've been sitting on hold for over two hours waiting to speak to a customer service representative. As stated by other reviewers my first call was disconnected after 56 minutes of hold time. Second call was disconnected at 43. Thanks for the break ;)! Currently 35 minutes into my third call. It's an endurance game folks! We called AHS to have our dishwasher repaired. It's a Bosch that is just over a year old and the soap dispenser would not open. They sent out AG Appliance Repair in southern California to resolve the issue. AG gives a 5 hour window of when they will arrive. So there's not much you can do other then take the day off work.
Technician shows up and says he needs to order parts and then slips the invoice to my wife to sign stating that AG Appliance completed all repairs to our satisfaction and we authorize them to bill AHS in full. Well... You didn't so in looking out for AHS my wife didn't sign but said she would be happy to when the work was complete. The technician slams his clipboard on the counter and throws the paper at my wife as he storms out the door. Clearly an uncomfortable situation for my wife who's home alone with the guy. I proceeded to call the appliance company to inform them that this technician was not welcome in my home.
So to my wife's surprise it was the same technician who showed up after multiple calls to find out if anyone was coming back. Now she's left with a tough choice let the douche bag back into the house and hopefully have a working dishwasher again considering she's lost two days of work and we've been without a dishwasher for two weeks or refuse the service and hope the shady company sends out someone decent next time.
She opted for option one and let the guy in. He installed the new parts and then informed her that our dishwasher no longer worked. What??? We were under the impression that you were here to fix it? We now have a dishwasher that won't even turn on. The technician's response "I don't know. It's your dishwasher." Needless to say I'm on hold now hoping that someone at AHS will help. My expectations sent very high and considering I'm 48 minutes into my third call I don't know if I'll be able to invest the time to find out. Buyer beware. You'll be better off without the frustration of having this home warranty in your life.

Back in June, my refrigerator was not working properly. AHS sent one guy out and he said he could not fix it as there was a closed, contained system after he did the first repair on it. It was getting loud at the time as well. They then sent this other group out and by the time they made the appointment with this other group, it took them over two weeks, from the first visit, before they even came out for the second visit to actually do the repair. I had to call them four times since they weren’t calling me to make the repair. I complained to Home Shield that this group wasn’t doing their job, they weren’t making the appointment, and they weren't doing it right. However, they wouldn't change to a different group. By this time, it has been over two months the we were without a refrigerator. After they did their repair, it still didn’t cool, and it was running loud again.
AHS sent this group out again and it took another two weeks before they would come out again to look at it. They were here three times, and by that time it was the end of September. They said it was fixed, but it wasn’t. So, I ordered thermometers for the refrigerator since it wasn't cooling right. I didn’t trust it, and didn’t want to put food in because we already lost over $1,000 worth of food because of this. I called on October and I told them the refrigerator was still not running. The temperature would go from 37 degrees and then all of a sudden, it would jump to 50 degrees. It was continually running and not constant. They were supposed to make an appointment for it but it was a week and a half later.
I asked AHS how come I’ve not gotten anything about my appointment on my refrigerator and they said that they saw that I didn’t need repair. I then made an appointment for the 17th time. I was starting to get mad since they had five chances to fix it, and still, it was not working and was getting loud. They made an appointment with another company, Sears, to come out. Sears came out in the mid of October. By that time, I was getting sick of it, so I sent a letter to my attorney general’s office as I’m disabled and I was getting no satisfaction. If they can’t fix it the third time, then they should’ve replaced it by then since there was something wrong with it.
Sears came out here and their guy called and told AHS on the phone that they won't fix and touch the refrigerator as it has already been opened once. Once that closed system’s been opened once, there’s nothing they can do with it, if it couldn’t be fixed after the first time. They don’t do it if someone else has already opened it since the odds of it getting fixed correctly is unlikely. AHS then made an appointment for the other people to come back out. They came back out on the first of October, did some stuff and put it together.
We stopped using it as it made a real high-pitched noise all of a sudden, while we were in bed. The next thing we knew, it came up on the morning of October and it wasn’t running at all. The motor was running, which was hot like diesel fuel and it wasn’t doing anything. It wasn’t cooling as well. It was 70 degrees in the refrigerator, so we unplugged it.
The group that came after Sears came back out and did some work. We found out there was a hole in the top and it looked like it had burst open. He fixed that, turned it on, and then it went and stayed past the temperature after that. On November 1st, I called AHS and was trying to get them to come back and fix it. The attorney general’s office had sent some letter suggesting that they do something about it, and they put it through investigation. At that point, Home Shield said they would replace it. But it was three weeks before we got a new refrigerator. I paid my original fee for doing the service. It was supposed to be a one-time fix fee. But, I kept getting bills all throughout for additional fees until lately. I had to call them hundreds of times and was on the phone for hours at a time, waiting for them to talk to me. It was a very poor service.
My main problem was with the one company AHS was dealing with who wouldn’t work on the refrigerator. They said they wouldn’t get a guarantee that they would be paid for the parts until they got the parts from AHS. They wouldn’t even make an appointment for it until after they had the parts on hand, which was two weeks later. We were almost six months without a refrigerator and I got the new refrigerator in the week of Thanksgiving.
No one should have to ever go through what I had gone through. That is unbelievable. I was on hold on the phone with them for four days, trying to get answers, since the second company that they called would not even call me to let me know what was going on and make the appointments. I had to call them to make sure the appointments were made and verified. The most important thing is that their service is not timely like it’s supposed to be. I wouldn’t even put them on the map. As soon as I could get out of my contract, I’m done with them.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience and get the repairs completed as soon as possible.
Thank you,

This company is great until a couple of claims are filed. Then they start using the gray areas of your contract. It’s loaded with grey so they can get out of paying for repairs. We were paying top dollar for their best plan. This was suppose to cover any leaking AC ducts as well clearly written in black and white on our contract. They dispatched a contractor of their choice out twice. Both said the ducts needed replacing which was causing moisture on the subfloor at the two vents in our home. This is in writing on the work orders the contractor left with me. But AHS refused to pay for the replacement of these ducts as stated in their contract. When you call and ask for a Supervisor...everyone is Supervisor. They promise to resolve it for you and you never hear back from anyone unless you call. Then you get more of the same old run around. All the while they’re drafting that monthly fee out of your account.
They also tried to charge me for an additional trip fee when they had to return on a covered issue that wasn’t repaired properly the first time. This took over three weeks of calls to get someone back out. The ducts issue arose in August of 17...to date no one has called and offered to resolve the issue and honor the contract. But I’ve had plenty of calls trying to get us to sign back up for coverage. This company has very poor customer service, very poor contractors performing the work but are one of the most expensive home Warranty providers around. If you buy a Warranty with these folks after two claims you’ll start being denied payment for coverage. Don’t waste your money!

This company prefers not to talk to talk to you. Everything is automated and they NEVER complete service in one day. I had water all over the floor in my kitchen and water under the tiles. I called AHS which took 48 hours to get a plumber out. He decided he needed to replace my $200.00 with a cheap one off his truck and told me it was better. Here we are two years later and the handle breaks off in my hand because it is cheap. Again, AHS takes time to respond, never anyone to answer the phone in less than an hour if I can wait on hold that long. Not only do they STILL charge me another $75 service fee but the plumber takes until 3:00 p.m. to come out and tell me in five minutes what he wants to do or recommend.
AHS will then approve the work order and the plumber will reschedule a time hopefully this week to complete the job. Do they understand I am WITHOUT a kitchen faucet for a problem that could be fixed in 30 minutes? - Do they care? No. They have $400 a year from me and $75 every time a service call is placed even if they put crap in my house to fix a problem. Very poor service. Other services may charge 10 dollars a month more but offer better service with top quality companies.

The washing machine leaked water from underneath and had been doing it for about a week. I called American Home Shield and it was very easy to submit the claim. The rep that I spoke with over the phone was excellent but the guy that came to fix the washing machine was a bit rough. We're having another issue with my washing machine and he's coming back again today. When he put the thing back together again, it might have been something that he did to make the drum unbalanced so it never finishes any load of laundry at all. Everything has to be wrung out by hand before it can be dried. He got really frustrated with the situation very easily. He wasn’t rude but he was highly irritable.
It used to be that American Home Shield would proffer the contract out to companies that were not in my local area, which was ridiculous, and they were not good at all. Now that we've been dealing with local companies, we feel fine about them and are much more satisfied and comfortable enough. However, the payment is done online which I don't like. Our payment didn't get through and it was going to be sent to a collection agency. I immediately called them and took care of it over the phone. Submitting payments online could be problematic that way. Also, the consultation fee of $85 dollars is steep. There are other companies that charge less. It's gotten to the point where we really have to think hard if we're going to call somebody from American Home Shield.

People wonder if an American Home Shield warranty is going to be worth the $600 dollars a year, but so far, I’ve always come out ahead or even. The contractors they sent out were all very good, very polite and cleaned up after themselves. I’ve had good luck with them. Then sometimes if I call them for a service and I had to wait, their reps were very accommodating. But for my recent claim, I went to their website because I couldn’t get through to them in person. The claim was for my dryer that wouldn't heat and their website worked well. If you’re not really tech-savvy, it would take you a while to submit a claim, but for me it wasn’t complicated. I just did the laundry yesterday and today and the dryer worked fine. So, I’ve pretty much gotten what my premiums and the extra $75 dollars are worth. I'm happy with AHS and I'm not planning to change.

My collector tray had a crack in it and so it was leaking all over the floor and making gurgly sounds. I called American Home Shield, told them about the problem, and they sent out Golden Appliance. When Golden Appliance first checked out the collector tray, they didn't find a problem. But 15 minutes after they left, the refrigerator peed all over the floor again so they came back a few minutes later and fixed the problem. They didn't get it the first time and I don't blame them for it because it didn't act up when they were there. But they got it the second time and they were professional, very pleasant, and personable. They were also very prompt, patient, and definitely did a good job. I just paid them and I didn't fill out any paperwork, so it was good. They handled my issue very well.
However, I also got a misinformation when I called American Home Shield. When I told them that my refrigerator shelves were broken, they said they don't cover those. But when I booked somebody else, they said they would have covered such after I have already paid for it. So, I don't know what the truth is. Even so, they were still good.

I've been with AHS for 10 years and they are as okay as can be. Last year, my microwave wasn’t working any longer, so AHS replaced it. They told me how much I had to spend and they gave me some information about what the options were. I made a decision, bought a new microwave, paid for it, sent the receipt in and got a check. I also had a problem with my washing machine that wasn't completely broken but was making a horrendous noise. The tech was able to fix it temporarily, but he said that it was just a matter of time. I also heard from him that unless it was absolutely broken, AHS wouldn't pay for it.

American Home Shield sent a contractor to fix a plumbing issue with the sink in my washroom. That was good but the guy also said that my piping was old steel. The best piping would have been copper because it doesn't rust up. What he put in there was plastic though, because that was all AHS would allow. I figured they're in the business and they're going to take the cheaper route so I accepted whatever they gave me. The pipe got corroded and I would have liked the top-grade stuff but it's working good now and I have no more leak in it.
I had another guy come out to do an assessment on the swimming pool when the little jet thing stopped functioning but the company said AHS wouldn't pay for it. They must know what AHS' criteria are so I accepted what they said. I got the warranty when I bought the house and it's been a year, and I would have to renew the policy. But I did a figure on how much it would cost per month then what incidents may happen and for how much. I figured it would be cheaper to pay for the service myself so I canceled American Home Shield.

I don't like submitting claims online because I don't get the companies that I like to work on it so I do it on the phone. However, they put me on hold for about two hours. They are good and nice when I get to speak with them, though. But the techs think that the appliance was fixed and they leave, but within 30 days the same problem comes back, like my heater for the central heat.

Three months ago, we opened a claim on our microwave that broke down. The submission of the claim was pretty easy and straightforward. We can either go online and submit it or we can call someone and submit. But it was really difficult to get a hold of some person. And with online, we get alerts but those really don’t tell much. The whole process for the microwave claim happened online. Then, AHS sent a contractor who came in within four business days. He looked at it and told us they’ll go back and see if the microwave can be fixed and if there were parts that need to be ordered. They left us with that information saying that American Home Shield will contact us. After a few days, we received an email saying that the product was no longer available and we’ll have to put in a request for a new item. And somebody would be looking into that. The process took its own time and we never got any updates.
There was one number we could call and find out what’s happening. So, we called the usual AHS number and they transferred me to a different number since a different group takes care of the replacement. It was difficult to find out and understand what they were saying. We were looking for a replacement which is very similar to what we had and we were told to go to a site to look at the products and pick from there. It was difficult to figure out whether it’s equal to what we have or not. So, we ended up picking the same brand, GE microwave.
Once they came and installed it, we immediately knew that there was a lot of difference between the microwave in terms of the look as well as functionality. The new one made a lot of noise whereas the one we had before didn't make. Also, the one we had before had a see-through glass, so we can actually see what is happening inside the microwave that if something was boiling or basically trying to come out, we could actually see that and switch it off. But the new one is pretty dark. There were a lot of specifications that talk about the differences which we never got to see. These were some of the things that were very difficult with the online thing. We basically go and put enough information.
I wish there was a better way of understanding what we're getting into. And we had expectations that it’s just the equal end to this in terms of form and functionality. But it looked like we settled for a lesser one and it was an inconvenience and annoyance. Something that should have taken two weeks took us three months to get replaced. We were not happy with the time it took them to replace it as well as with the product that was replaced. Even though we have the warranty, we were better off just going with an outside company and pay a little bit more. But, at the end of the day, we'll probably be happier with that.
We paid $75 for the service fee so the technician can come. But if I spent $200, I would have gotten a much better, modern looking microwave. When I look at the price point, it was enough for me to have gone with something new as opposed to just sticking with the replacement. I’ve had American Home Shield for five years. It's more convenient to have for repairs since I just call one number and AHS will send somebody to take care of it.

I was contacted within half an hour and someone was out the same day. The website has been great for me and the turnaround was amazing. I've had three claims and they've been out very quickly. The contractor was great and was really helpful. At first, the noise in the pipes wasn't there. He did some digging, found the problem and took care of it. I used to be able to call them and get right in but recently, I had to wait an hour to get through to American Home Shield in filing a claim for an AC issue. They said it was going to be 15 minutes but, twice, I had to wait an hour. Their rep was very nice and helpful though and the company that they sent, Doctor Cool, was wonderful. They came out one night and the AC worked fine. Then the little thermostat in the hall started blanking out, so I called them and they came back out again. Their tech looked at it and I needed a new thermostat so he put that in, which was nice. They go behind their work.
This one time though, during the summer, my other air conditioner didn’t work then and AHS sent another company out. I had to pay the $100 for them to come out. I called for service again the next day because the AC wasn’t working and they charged me the $100 which wasn't right. I found out that the air conditioner was under warranty and the guy never did anything nor took anything off his truck. I have a couple of people I told that to, and they canceled theirs but I haven't. Also, last year, I called AHS for my dryer and a guy came out and said that something was wrong with the door but never fixed it so I'm going to have to call them again and pay my $100 again. Most of the time, though, AHS is very good to deal with.

I had two claims in November and the first one was for a leaking faucet. The first plumber that came out was really nice. He worked on all of it and he made everything great. He had to order some parts, so he came back and did that. But then right after he left, the handle fell off, so we needed to have the handle put back on. I called that plumber again and they sent out another plumber after ordering parts. It was really weird, and I think I can live with this, but it was a fancy wall faucet, so the second plumber had both the hot and cold handles turned back and you could see the little tiles in them. About two or three days after he left, the handles switched back to where one went down and one went up and my husband was like, "That's the most mysterious thing I've ever seen."
Both of those plumbers were very professional and they went to great lengths to order special parts. One of them even ordered a part that he said had to come from Europe for this 19-year old faucet, so I was pleased. Since the repair, the faucet has not been leaking and the handles had been on tightly, but the faucet has been different from what it was before, and if you saw a picture of this faucet, it got these little white ceramic things that say 'hot and cold.'
The second claim last month was for the ice maker. All of the sudden, the ice in my freezer started smelling really funny. American Home Shield had put in a new ice maker earlier in the year and I was thrilled- about that. This time, a plumber by the name of Boris came and he didn't have much bedside manners, which was fine. He came and he said, "Well, you just need to dump your ice out every two months." His manner was rushed and gruff, and he hardly opened the refrigerator before he said that.
I said I was dumping it out every two weeks and I'm not putting any of that ice in my drinks. He said I needed a water purifier and had to put that in the basement of our house. I felt like somebody else should check that because all the other people that American Home Shield had sent out had been so nice except for this Boris guy. Also, sometimes, I've been on a hold for a long time to get through American Home Shield reps. I probably should just bite the bullet and do it online but I’m not really good at that as I’m a senior. Nevertheless, if a friend who would ask about American Home Shield, I would tell them to just do it.

I recently had American Home Shield replace my ceiling fan. I went online for the claim and they sent me a plumber instead of an electrician. And then, I paid online because it said, “Do you want to pay with your card on file?” which is how they were billing me every month and I said yes. But the other day, I got a bill for that $100 for the ceiling fan when I had already paid it online. The rep said they’d transfer the $100 over for the electrician. I was on hold over 6 hours and 58 minutes on that call and yesterday and got a bill for that $100 again. And it doesn’t matter what I call about because I’m always on hold for at least 45 minutes. I didn’t renew with them after that. But that’s because of the prior claim with an air conditioning problem that took almost four months to resolve.
Three contractors have come out here to get it taken care of. And then, AHS kept sending me a bill, and calling, saying I haven't paid for the initial fee. So I told them that I've already talked to all three of those contractors and every one of them has been taken care of. AHS sent me the first guy out and he did $300 worth of work, which all AHS paid was $100. I had to pay the $100 plus an extra $266. I put that on my credit card 'cause I wasn’t expecting it. Then, I found out that it was against the law for my usual air conditioning man to do what they did. So I called AHS and told them about that.
They sent out a second contractor who put three pounds of Freon in the air conditioner and never checked for a leak. One can't put more than two pounds in without checking for a leak. So they sent a person out the second time who said that the coil was leaking in 20 places and that it needed to be replaced. I waited a week but didn’t hear anything back.
I called both the contractor and AHS. The contractor said, “We're not certified to work on that kind of a unit, so they're going to have to send you out someone else.” But nobody came, so I called AHS. They sent out another service person who walked through the door with his little meter and said I have Freon downstairs and that he already knew without going upstairs, where the unit was, but he went up anyway. He also said I needed a new coil and that my unit wasn't made anymore. Parts have to be manufactured for it. It took six to eight weeks. But in the meantime, Freon was coming out into my house in the middle of the summer.
And then, AHS started sending me something that I hadn't paid the original contractor and that I owed $100 to each of those two people they sent out. I said that they’ve sent out another technician because the first one didn’t do what he was supposed to do. So I called EPA and found out that there's a $47,500 fine per unit that is leaking. When I called AHS back, I let them know that I'm not paying that and that they need to be talking to their contractors. I also said that I was advised by EPA that when the coil is replaced, they must recover the Freon in there because I've already paid $366 for it. It’s my Freon and they can put it back in my unit. Plus, they don’t get to charge me for putting Freon back in after they redo the coil.
The day the guy came out to do it, he went upstairs with the recovering machine and when he came back downstairs, he said he had recovered my Freon and was going to check outside for leaks. Then I talked to AHS two weeks later and they told me I owe them $18 for the Freon but I said that EPA told me that if they try to hoodwink me, they'd go after them for the $47,500 fine for the Freon that was put in illegally in the beginning. All of a sudden, it got real quiet. I didn’t get any more threatening things. Then I get a bill that says I still owe that original contractor who came out in June. I called AHS again and they said they have spoken with the contractor twice telling them that I’ve already paid. They, too, didn’t know why the contractor was bothering me but AHS said they’ll take care of it. AHS has real billing problems.

AHS should have a system where people would leave their number and then they'd call back since that is a lot of time wasted. On the other hand, their reps were good and friendly. I already had one contractor come on my own to see what were the problems. They went to my roof, poured water through the pipe and then they said where the water is leaking from. Then, I called AHS and when the plumber came he said that they don't go on the roof. So, I had to call back the other contractor to come back and coordinate with my contractor and the plumber to go on the roof and pour water since the plumber could see. The plumber was very good. They came up four times and then fixed the problem.
I told them that since my other contractor had helped me three times to diagnose it and since AHS could not go on the roof, I’d rather give the job to that contractor for the drywall. A week before Christmas, my water heater began leaking. I called and was assigned to a local plumber that had a rating of 1 star. It took them 4 days to even come to the house to assess it. Then, on the day after Christmas, I received a voicemail from AHS giving a long laundry list of items they would not cover per the plumber's assessment. First was that they said they needed to replace a fan for $100. I don't have a fan that needs to be replaced, nor do I need one. Second was that they were going to charge me for the parts and labor to REPLACE the water heater!!! They said that it was a "modification", when it was a common activity to replace a water heater (meaning, you can't get around it to do the replacement. Point blank.) So, they were wanting to charge me an additional $350 for the replacement on top of my $125 deductible.
So, by the estimate, all they were paying for was the removal and the actual water heater. Not the actual installation. They kept saying it was in my contract. I kept telling them that this is not a modification, that a modification would be if the installation would require something different from what was there before. They would not budge. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and was told that was impossible. And this was after waiting over an hour to speak to someone in the first place. This company is a rip off. They assign you to contract companies with bad reputations, have terrible customer service, then give you excuses that make no sense to people who know better in order to rip them off. Stay away!

There was a problem with our garbage disposal unit, so we went online and filled the American Home Shield forms out. Their reps are always very friendly and their contractors are always very helpful. Since the repair, the garbage disposal unit has been perfect. The only thing that was peculiar was when they came for the fix. Apparently, we had paid online somehow for the charge and we didn't realize that we were hooked up to do that. They never collected anything and we were never billed. Then, we just saw it come through our bank account.
But we usually have a pretty good experience with AHS. For a low monthly fee, whatever goes wrong in your house, I just pay a minimal coverage and 80% of the repairs are typically covered. For instance, if I had a furnace, there are very specific things with the furnace that I would be responsible in paying for but most of everything else is covered under the insurance policy. One particular time in the years that we’ve been with American Home Shield, they offered a higher payment for including the maintenance things and we missed out on that because we couldn't afford it. It would be nice to have the opportunity to enroll in that again but everything is great with AHS.
