A 220-volt contactor, which I call a relay, just burned itself out due to a bad connection. We called American Home Shield, and then they sent an email on when they were coming. We had an ice storm and it was a crazy time right then because of the ice, so it took them about a week to get here. But when they got here, they fixed the issue right away and it was good. They were here for 45 minutes and everything is working well so far. I talked to the heating and cooling guy because I never had a heat pump before, and he explained to me how they worked, so I learned a lot just from talking with him about it. It was really a good experience and I’m glad I have an American Home Shield warranty. Everything was handled excellently.

We had a heater repair recently which I submitted that claim online to AHS. Their website was reasonably easy to navigate. I started talking to them on the 7th of December and it had taken a week and a half to get the contractor out here because there was an issue in trying to find someone in our local area that would actually handle it. We live in Athens, Georgia which is a fairly good little area.
The first guy that they assigned to come out said that they didn’t handle that sort of furnace and didn’t even know what kind of furnace it was. So, the distance for them to travel was too far. The second guy that they assigned was four hours out in South Carolina. And then, a third company that was about an hour away, came and fixed it. The technician was quick to diagnose the issue and had the part with them which was amazing. They were in and out fairly quickly. We also had a connection difficulty between our thermostat and furnace itself so we replaced the thermostat too. Now, we have a non-technologically connected thermostat. The furnace comes on and goes off like it supposed to since it doesn’t have to wait for the internet.

There was ice that was forming in my freezer. I called AHS to submit a claim. The reps took the information and the interaction with them was fine. I usually call them since they have a couple of vendors that I don’t like, so I make sure that they are giving me one that I like, and they are accommodating. With this particular contractor, I’ve used them the last couple of times, and my kitchen has been good. But I need to get back to AHS on the latest repair that the contractor did. He filled up a hole, and it looks like it might still be leaking. There had been someone in the past whom I thought had done a good job, but then six months later my appliance broke down again since they did stupid things. Later on, I found out from another vendor that the parts weren’t even of the right manufacturer or they put it in backward. But AHS is more of a convenience factor. It's an expensive service, and I have very old appliances.

This is my first claim to American Home Shield. My son uses them too so I asked him to submit the claim for me. AHS responded very quickly through the call since we turned for them to come out and check the garbage disposal. The two young men that came out were very polite, did a very good job, took all their boxes and stuff with them when they left, and thanked me for the service. I had a great experience.

Our heat pump wasn't working upstairs and AHS didn’t fix the problem, so I've got to call them back. They called out a plumber and the plumber said that it was not the heat pump but electrical. So, they sent out an electrician who had only been working for a week and he said that he doesn't know and that the box was all rusted out. The box is 30 years old and it's outside of the house at about shoulder level.
With all the weather going on the last two weeks, it took them a couple of days to call me back. All of a sudden, they showed up at the house without calling me and I was in a meeting. I didn’t hear from them for a couple of days and then they called back and we finally got them out there. And then, I got a call yesterday that said they were not covering it due to water damage to the electrical box. However, it is not water damage since there was no flood and I have water damage coverage. I was planning on calling them but I'm busy. AHS is usually good but right now, I'll have to wait and see how they handle this as this experience is up in the air right now. So, I'm not really happy right now.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I had an issue with my garbage disposal, so I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. Everything was good. The claims representative and contractor were professional and courteous. When the contractor came in, he told me what the issue was and what he would do to fix it. And then he did it and left within 45 minutes. Since the repair, the garbage disposal was running fine and I was able to use my sink again.
The only issue I found with this claim and the one before it was when I placed the order, it took about four business days for them to get someone wound up, although both of my claims were right around the holidays—the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Still, this company’s services were great. The last two issues I’ve had were resolved. American Home Shield saved me from having painful cost out of pocket from home appliance repairs.

When I file a claim to AHS, I usually go to the website and schedule the appointment. Recently, I filed a claim for the icemaker on the refrigerator. My appliances are GE, so I've been lucky that AHS has sent the GE rep. It's been the same most of the time and the service was pretty good. The refrigerator is about 13 years old. I was sure it wouldn't be performing like new but since the repair, it became a lot better. However, I wish the deductible wasn’t as high. I've been with AHS for many years and before it was only $40, not $100. It's getting expensive, but it's still a good service. But if the deductible is not as high, then at least it would encourage me to call for service instead of doing it myself sometimes. Other than that, I would recommend AHS.

American Home Shield has dealt with some issues very, very well although they are getting very restrictive and very expensive. Also, they're very responsive and they come out within a couple of days but if they detect that the problem of the appliance was something else like the power supply, then we have to go through the whole process again to get somebody to come out to deal with the power supply. So, for troubleshooting and fixing a problem that is not immediately obvious, it needs two trips. But other than that, I'm good. You have to look very carefully at the coverage and your contract because there are exclusions for refrigerators and washing machines and you have to pay more for those.

I submitted my claim over the phone. Submitting a claim online because doesn’t give me the feeling that anybody’s actually going to pay attention to me or answer me back. I like to call and talk to a person. American Home Shield put you on hold for a long time before you’re able to get on and that part is not good. I know they want to automate it online but it’s just not the same. And when you call, it takes forever to pick up and actually talk to a live person.
And it’s hit or miss. Sometimes you get somebody that’s good and sometimes you get someone that doesn’t have much interest. And I have three investment properties and my own house so I have four policies with them. In our investment apartment, the microwave was not working. American Home Shield sent out someone to try and repair it. It couldn’t be repaired because the parts were not available anymore.
American Home Shield had to replace the unit with a new one and they did. It was a little bit time consuming only because there was a whole process of when they have to replace where they keep emailing you and you have to order whatever it is online and go back and forth and then confirm when it’s ready and then the delivery. When they delivered, they couldn’t install it. They had to come back so they have the unit sitting in their apartment for about a week before the installation. It was a different person that came later to deliver it and then a different one to install it. It worked out but it did take a little bit longer than I think it should. AHS needs to be a little bit quicker or less bureaucratic to get the whole replacement of the unit whenever they have to replace something.

The contractors are usually sent out within a couple of days and sometimes they have to make recalls because they don't have the parts. American Home Shield should keep communicating and be a little more responsive, but we encourage our friends to get it. Things are going okay and everything is taken care of so we're fine.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was pretty expedient with returning the phone call and setting up a time that was appropriate. My husband was pleased with what the contractors told him, something with the commode. It had been there too long and they had to order some parts or pieces of something. They told him the date and time that they set up to come back. They have not completed their service yet and are supposed to come back tomorrow. I told my daughter about AHS. She's changing over from her company and I'm trying to debate and help her decide whether or not to go with American Home Shield or somebody else. Last year I had a problem with the AC people that came out and it just got fixed again this year. We were going back and forth, back and forth. The guy left something off the AC, but he didn't put it on the report when he turned it in.

My last service call was not very satisfactory, which led to me to cancel my service with American Home Shield a little over a year ago for my three properties. It involved six service calls for one appliance in the kitchen of one of my rental homes. Several companies came out to repair the dishwasher. A couple of the calls fell within the 60 days where they covered a service call again at no charge, but they were still not able to resolve the problem. The dishwasher was never repaired, so I finally just replaced it myself. I then wrote a letter to American Home Shield customer service somewhere in Iowa and after a few phone calls as well as emails back and forth, they agreed to reimburse me for the dishwasher, which they did.
I needed something better so I canceled my service and went to another company. It was mainly for my tenants, since the lady in the house with the dishwasher was a student, and she was not able to arrange her schedule whenever needed for service calls. It was a burden on her, as well as a burden on me since I wasn’t able to take care of the problem she had.
But I discovered that the other company I went to operated a lot differently from American Home Shield. I’ve had one experience with them which involved my personal residence. While I ended up with a result that was not completely satisfactory, it opened my eyes to how the other company worked. I could see that it wasn’t going to work for my tenants so I canceled those policies and took my properties back to American Home Shield. And I didn't expect how easy it was for me to reinstate my policies.

American Home Shield has sent out techs several times for my microwave oven unit and now, they need to come out again because it developed a new problem. Normally, I submit my claims online but since the oven has been an unusual and ongoing issue, I called it in yesterday and was on hold until after they closed and I gave up so I’m going to call them again. We’ve run into several Murphy’s law situations but the service has been good given the situation. Their agents on the phone have been very responsive and helpful, and their website is very user-friendly. The contractors who have come here do their part, were prompt and responsive too.

Our toilet was leaking and I attempted to fix it but it didn't work out quite well. So I figured to use the homeowner's insurance with American Home Shield. The tech told me when they're going to come and that he would call me 30 minutes before arrival, which he did. We had a little interaction when he was here and explained what the problem was. He fixed the issue and was gone in 15-20 minutes. We couldn't use the bathroom prior to him coming but now, we can. It was awesome. This is a new house for us and our previous owners paid the $500 for the home warranty but to get somebody out here, we still have to pay a $75 fee, which doesn't make sense when we're paying the $500 upfront for it.

I recently had a couple of claims on my spa heater that wouldn’t work right. American Home Shield sent out Sun Bright Tools. And they looked at the spa heater and said that the circuit board was fried. They couldn’t fix it and the whole thing needed to be replaced. They quoted me $3,500 to replace it and said my home warranty company wouldn't cover it. My friend who works for a pool company in Texas tried to get me a new heater through his connection with that company so it would cost me less money as he can’t come and work in my pool. While we were doing all of that, he suggested that I get a second opinion from AHS because he didn't think what Sun Bright said sounded right. I called AHS and told them to send out another contractor as I'd like a second opinion.
AHS sent Pool Buddies as the second contractor. They came out and said that all it needed was to replace a new sticky pad panel-thing. I was so impressed with them. The spa heater works fine and I've used it three times since then. I had only one service call but AHS sent two companies. And I called AHS a week and a half ago because I keep getting emails that I owe $75 to Pool Buddies which I didn't because it was a second opinion for the exact same problem. The AHS rep told me that I didn’t owe a second $75 and that she’d take care of it but I’m still getting emails.
Also, it was the second time that AHS sent Sun Bright Tools. A year and a half ago, they came for my spa filter and they said that it was broken and I needed a new one. They quoted me $1,800 to buy it from them. I called to get a second opinion, and American Home Shield sent out a second contractor who fixed the issue and it was a seal and it was covered. Sun Bright is still in their service which I didn't like. But still, I would refer American Home Shield.

My refrigerator's motor freezer stopped working. That cost the bottom of the refrigerator to stop being cold, therefore, it became very warm. We had to get rid of a lot of food. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield through their website and it was so quick. Everything comes to you quick but one time, I was on hold for 45 minutes before I actually spoke to someone. I absolutely hated calling American Home Shield. But then over time when I would call again, I will be on hold maybe half an hour but I try not to call. I try to speak to just doing stuff online.
American Home Shield had to come out and replace the motor upfront so that way, that will fix the bottom part of the refrigerator as well. We had to wait for the parts but that was around the holiday and that didn’t take long right after Christmas. The following week, they came out to replace the parts. The techs were pretty good and I had no problems at all. They come in professional, take care of the problem, listen to my needs and they do what they have to do.
American Home Shield can cover your appliances and whatever else you choose at a reasonable and affordable price per month. What I like about it is that I know I’m only going to pay according to my plan. I’m only going to pay 125 when they come out to fix whatever there is that needs to be fixed, opposed to putting out hundreds of dollars to have something repaired by someone else outside the plan.

I called American Home Shield for my dishwasher and they were very good. But they appear to be getting some bad reputation regarding the wait time and they spend a great deal of time with their client on the telephone, but I didn't have a problem with that. Once I get a rep on the phone, I know that I’m going to get a response and I can very easily explain to them my claim. They had answered information on identifying the contract holder and then they would find a contractor and contact us.
For my recent dishwasher claim, the contractor came to my house, evaluated what the problem was and said that they would get back to us and tell us what they were going to do. The next day, they contacted us and said that it was going to need a new control panel. They contacted American Home Shield and American Home Shield contacted us and told us that they were ordering the part and it would be delivered to the contractor.
When the part was delivered, the contractor contacted us, came out and he had all the proper tools to do the work. He knew exactly what he was doing, and told me what he was going to do and didn't waste any time. The control panel was replaced, then he ran the equipment to make sure it works. He ran it twice and the dishwasher was 100% functional. He left with no debris, and took the empty boxes and the old control panel with him. The contractors that American Home Shield sends are always friendly, very confident and they don't waste any time.
When we bought our home, I did a lot of research and spoke to my real estate agent who gave us the names of people we could contact to verify with American Home Shield. We called two other people on the list and both of them were very helpful and said American Home Shield is the best. I would recommend American Home Shield to anyone who has considered buying a new home and to anybody that owned a house today and doesn’t have them as their contractor.

We bought our new house and it came with a refrigerator that was installed. We haven’t been here for two weeks when the compressor went out in the refrigerator. We’re shocked since the refrigerator wasn't even that old. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and it went fairly. AHS then started sending me emails and alerts like, "You've opened a claim and this is what's going to happen. We're going to send somebody out and it was assigned to so and so company." That's where it started to go into the left field.
The first company that came out couldn't do it. The rep said, "We can't get out there until next week sometime." I told him, "Wait a minute. I need somebody out. The refrigerator is dead. Everything is going bad inside of it." Then he said, "Let me try and give it to somebody else." They moved the repair job to another contractor, but that company couldn’t do it too, so the first company had to find somebody else.
The third company then said, "We can't get out there initially until for about two days." I called AHS back and said, "This is kind of ridiculous. I'd like to get somebody out there quicker because, obviously, all the ice has melted. Now, there's water everywhere, and all our food is going bad. What can we do about this?” The rep said, "We got 72 hours to get somebody out there," and so, we waited.
Then the contractors finally showed up and diagnosed the problem. They were just really nice and great. We even kept their number just in case anything else ever happens. They said we needed a new compressor, so they got the part on order because they don’t have one at the moment. Then, we didn't hear anything for a while. We called the repair facility and asked, "What's going on?" The rep told me, "American Home Shield won't let us replace because they want to order it themselves." AHS wanted to try and get the part somewhere else for cheaper. But then, that went for a week and a half. When we finally got the part, the contractors came out and replaced it. It took forever to repair our refrigerator and we're living out of an ice chest for two weeks. But since the refrigerator has been fixed, it’s working great.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the issues.

I got AHS with the house and paid for an additional two years with them. During winter, I went up to check my furnace and found a wire burned off from the motherboard. I called American Home Shield and I told them the brand name of the heating system, what I found and that I needed it fixed sooner versus later. They found a company and the contractors showed up on time. They figured out that it wasn’t just the wire and that the cylinder on the gas exhaust was not turning. The wire had been sending the electrical current to turn it but it was defective that’s why the wire burned off. They took a couple of hours to source the part. Then they came back, fixed it and it’s been working fine since then. However, at that point, my garage door fell apart but that’s not covered under the home warranty. Relatively and as expected, it was a good service from American Home Shield. They’ve done what was covered under my warranty.

I have AHS for my house and another for my mother. Recently, the washer started malfunctioning. The contractor came out a few times and had it repaired. But a couple of days later, it started doing the same old thing. After the first couple of times that the contractor came out, I kept telling him about my research from how the washer was acting. He was in denial and said that he has been doing it for 40 years. He came out and did what he did before again and put some other part on. Then the washer went back doing the same little problem again.
I called American Home Shield and asked them to send out another contractor which they did. The next contractor who came out diagnosed it with exactly what I had researched the problem would be. He said that it was too costly to replace the part so AHS bought a new one and replaced the whole washer. After that, everything went smoothly, and we’ve been happy ever since. Things were done in a timely manner and we were very satisfied that's why we still have a contract with them. We even recommend them to three friends.

We had some issues with the knobs on our gas cooktop and the vendor who was assigned to this account required us to do a lot of our homework on our end before he came out. And it didn't necessarily result in a shorter turn time for problem resolution. The vendor worked directly with my husband. He said that the vendor called him and made him go to the cooktop, get a flashlight and try to read things under there. He had already provided the model number and everything associated with the product. But this was the convenience that we pay the service call of American Home Shield for, for the vendor to come out here and look at that information. Also, the vendor replaced two of the knobs which were not covered under American Home Shield. Last night, I was trying to put two of the knobs back on but they were not staying on. I'm going to have to call again.
Oher than that, my overall experience with American Home Shield is usually really good. I like them a lot. In this particular instance, it was just that an individual vendor. There were also some vendors that complained that they don't make enough money through American Home Shield to do these claims to which I'm like, "Don't be a partner." There should be a thorough vetting of some vendors that may not be as happy with being a part of American Home Shield.
I tell my friends that if they have a pool, the warranty pays for itself within the first three months. The convenience for us is we don't have to shop for a variety of different vendors. I also tell my friends that if they don't like the vendor that they get or the vendor can't go to where they are, AHS will give them another vendor. And when friends tell me that they've heard scandals about American Home Shield not paying claims, I tell them that I've had AHS at two different properties now and it's nothing I experienced.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for dryer replacement and that went fine. The only difficulty I have with them is getting a hold of someone. When I call, it's always a long wait. They're so busy or lines are down. On a certain occasion, I just set the phone on the counter and put it on speaker. It was almost two hours before I got a live person. Also, there's one time when the rep said, "You've reached the wrong person, I will get you the correct number. I'm gonna put you on hold." I heard music forever and forever and she never came back. And then, if I go online to put in a claim, I don't know who they're going to call, when they're going to call or it's an emergency, whether or not they're going to get right back to me. So, I like humans. I'm in my 80's and there are a lot of us out there who are not comfortable with the computer. American Home Shield’s phone service needs to be more friendly and accommodating to those people.
That's absolutely the only negative experience I have had with this company. They take care of my needs once I get them. I have always been pleased with the contractors that have come to the house. I've not had a single complaint that I can recall. If I did, it was so minor, I've forgotten it. They were professional and they knew what they were doing. Every repair that they have done has been correct. If they couldn't do it, then I knew it before they left and had told me what they were going to do. So, I continue to join American Home Shield each year and have recommended it out to other people.

We submitted a request to have our water heater repaired because the pilot light kept going out. The company A-1 Plumbing out of Lubbock was assigned to complete the repair. The technician arrived on January 15 at the end of the day and determined that the water heater needed to be replaced due to age and noncompliance with city building codes. He contacted American Home Shield and got the repairs approved. The technician informed us that he would return Wednesday to change out the water heater and to relight the pilot as needed. He did not arrive on Wednesday and when I called to find out where he was after waiting all day he told me that he was waiting for the parts to be approved by the home warranty company. He finally called on Friday morning and ask if he could come by and I told him yes that my husband was home.
At 3:00 pm my husband called and said that no one had come by all day. I contacted the technician who claimed that he went on to the next person on the list because he didn't know if anyone was at home. I told him that I had said there was as someone there earlier and he told me that he was headed that way. His response was that he had to move on and would try to get to it and then he hung up. He showed up at the house just before 5:00 pm and began replacing the water heater. Once it had been replaced he determined that he could not get the pilot light to stay lit long enough to get the gas turned on. He said that he would need to go to the store when they opened on Saturday morning and then left. He returned to my house around 9:30 am on Saturday and began replacing all the parts on the new heater trying to get the pilot to stay lit.
After about 30 minutes he told me that he couldn't get it to work, that he had only had this problem one other time before but did not know how that situation turned out because the other people called out another plumber to fix the problem. He said that he would try to figure out something and let me know when he did. I ask him how long that would take and when he was going to fix the water heater and he just shrugged and walk out of my house. I called American Home Shield at 11:30 to find out if we could get another technician to come out and complete the repair so that we could have hot water in our house. I was informed that A-1 Plumbing did not have information about the repair issues nor did they know the name of the technician assigned to the repairs. I was told that until the technician submitted the issues he was having they could not reassign the repair to another company.
We had to go to a hotel during the weekend, spending $200 to shower and let our children bathe. I called American Home Shield on Monday morning to find out if they had been in contact with the plumber and they called but no one answered at A-1 Plumbing and they said that without talking to the technician about the problems he was having. They could not send someone out to repair the problem. My husband contacted the plumber and he said again that he didn't know how to fix the problem, claiming that he was waiting for American Home Shield to approve repairing the gas line to increase the pressure to the line and would be by sometime to make those repairs.
Every time we contact American Home Shield they have taken no steps to contact the company or rectify this situation, they refuse to allow us to speak to a supervisor or someone who could make decisions other than to tell us that they have to wait for the assigned plumber to contact them before they can assign someone to fix this issue.

We were told by the HVAC person the cost of Freon was $150.00 per pound and American Home Shield would only cover $10.00 a pound. Needless to say we were ANGRY... We needed to pay $1,260.00 and American Home Shield would pay $90.00, WOW what coverage. We live in a very small rural area and once, I had to wait three weeks to have our washer and dryer fixed because American Home Shield only contracts with certain people. In this case, it was Sears, who only comes to our neighborhood once a week. To get on their schedule, it is usually a three to four weeks’ process which is a huge problem if it was something major like a water heater. It was a huge hassle with the washer, but not as desperate as if we have no hot water in the house. American Home Shield is a good warranty to get things fixed if something breaks down, but my biggest issue with them is they don’t allow me to go out and get my own contractor.
The last claim we had with American Home Shield was for a pipe that burst because it was packed with grease. The website is cut and dried, and I just clicked on what the problem was. The contractor was a wonderful guy and he was very friendly. He replaced the pipe and he had it done in a couple of hours, and he turned that around in a week which was very unusual. He comes to our neighborhood twice a week, so I was able to snag him early. Everything has been working fine since the repair.

Our fan was continuously running and I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone and it was very difficult. That needs to be changed. But I eventually spoke to someone and that interaction was awesome. I had to deal with two of their contractors though because I requested the first person to not come back as he was rude. The second contractor was awesome. AHS needs to fix the customer service option because when you have to call in for a recall number, the option is not available.

I had an outlet that is closed because it was loose. In the past, I had an electrician who had replaced that outlet. Seeing that it was on my agenda of things I could do, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor they sent was really nice. He looked at my outlet and said that the reason it was loose on the wall was that it needed some extra part. There was no need to replace the whole box. He made sure that it was tight, but it didn't really fix the problem because he didn't do that little extra part thing. It was my first time I had anybody out. And while it wasn't successful as I've hoped, I understood why it could be different than it was.

The claims process with American Home Shield is simple. Recently, I filed for an electrical issue. The technician that was sent out was very respectful when he came to my house and everything was fine, but the contractual agreement didn’t allow him to really fix my problem. My exterior electrical outlets are still not working and I didn’t get anything from my $75. I’m going to have to pay American Home Shield an extra charge to have it figured out. The issue wasn’t something that could be diagnosed. I don’t know if it was his fault or American Home Shield’s, but it was zero helpful and I still have no idea why I have no power outside of my house. I work for Terminix and we have a construction crew. As much as I hate to say it, for me to resolve this, I’m going to have my crew come out and look. That may be a common problem with electrical issues.
I work for the same company, ServiceMaster, and I’ve kept their services. But if it wasn’t for that, I would have let American Home Shield go. The contractors that come out often are not there to fix the problem as much as they are trying to sell me something else. I understand that because we have marketing in our company as well. I had a heater malfunction, and in order for me to get the blower motor fixed, the air conditioning company tried to sell me some gadget for my AC drip pan which had nothing to do with the problem I had. But if I didn’t have that, supposedly, I wouldn’t qualify for the insurance. I called American Home Shield and that wasn’t the case. Excuses like that are a little disheartening when you’re dealing with a warranty.
There could be better guidelines on what they’re going to repair and what they’re not, so we know as a consumer what’s going to be covered. Also, American Home Shield could be a little more accessible when we are having an issue. I had a hard time getting a hold of anybody who could tell me if it was covered or not, almost like either they didn’t understand their job or they were afraid to say anything. I wasn’t impressed with the staff when I called in to resolve that.
Terry, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

My most recent claim was for an issue with my microwave. I called American Home Shield and explained the issue that I was having, then they subcontracted it and someone else called me. I've always had a pleasant conversation with the AHS representative. However, interacting with the contractor was a challenge. Initially, they had to see if the microwave can be repaired, but I ended up going through three different companies for the same result, which was the microwave couldn't be repaired. We had it replaced which was definitely great for me, considering that I'm a single parent who doesn't always have time to bake or fry something. It's easy to just put something in the microwave.
AHS is a great benefit and their price is reasonable. Each time I place an order, I pay a fee for it. Then if someone comes out two or three times, it does not cost any additional money. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to friends because once a house becomes a certain age, they would be experiencing issues with their appliances, so it's great to have someone that they could talk to that could come and diagnose whatever the issue is and then replace or have it repaired.

We had an issue with our dryer around Thanksgiving. When it was being used, it developed a rubbing or a scraping sound so, I called American Home Shield and put a request in. A company out of Kinston came and did an initial survey of the dryer. They found that the there were some bad bearings in it and several other things that were wrong. They reported that back to American Shield and they called me within a couple of weeks after that. They said that they ordered parts and it should be in a couple of days after the call. They would reschedule another visit to make the repair and they did exactly as they said it. The technician was timely, very efficient and very professional. It was pretty cool that he put the dryer back in operation so we could use it while they were ordering the parts. It still made a little bit of a sound, but not the horrible sound it made before. They finally got the dryer back in operation and it's been working perfectly fine.
On the other hand, with about three or four claims we've had through the years, it was difficult to get in touch with them on the phone. It takes forever, but if I go online and I submit a claim, I get an email back almost immediately saying that claim has been submitted and a company will call back within 24 hours. That always happens without any question so, the online claim submission is a lot easier. I call them if I have a question or concern about something and it's not all that pleasant because of the wait time. We're moving to the Western part of the state and we're going to buy a house there. And when I do, I fully intend on insuring that with American Home Shield. They're a great company and I have recommended them to a friend.

The heater was not working, and making the claim with American Home Shield was easy. I just did it online. The contractor fixed the issue. We both smelled the smell of heat. He left and it wasn’t working again. I was a little concerned making the heater claim especially when it didn’t work the next day, but the contractor came out and fixed it. He immediately determined that I needed a new thermostat. So, he went ahead and changed that.
I had a problem in the beginning with my pool getting done, but that has since been resolved. It broke down in the fall. I made that claim and the contractor came out and said it was fixed. I don’t use the hot tub very often, but a couple of months later during the holidays my family was there and it wasn’t working again. My pool guys said that I needed a new motor and since I had a home warranty, it would be best to go through them for that. When I went to American Home Shield, the people who came out determined that I did not need a pool pump or motor. So, I ended up paying another copay because I was just out of the 60 day period of noticing that it wasn’t working again.
The second time the guy came out, I was pretty firm with him and he determined that the pool pump was working really bad. It was really slow and sluggish. It was working way too harder than it should have been. So then, the second time around, they finally fixed that but I had to pay for a second copay. I was pretty upset. One way that American Home Shield could be better is by partnering with better vendors. American Home Shield should want to be with people who satisfy us as well as them. If the contractors don’t fix the issue the first time, then they're just coming out and wasting American Home Shield’s money as well as my deductible. American Home Shield should listen to their customers when it comes to satisfaction based on the people they're sending to our homes.

My furnace would not heat up. It would not go to the temperature I would set the thermostat. I went through the American Home Shield website and submitted a claim. The contractor who came over was great and informative. He did what he needed to do. He just had to do some kind of cleaning and he checked the amperage and everything else was okay. He was done in just half an hour. After the repair, the furnace has been doing pretty good. I would definitely recommend the service to others.

I had a problem with my garage door opener and I looked at my policy and it said, “Garage door opener covered”. I called American Home Shield for two and a half weeks before I finally got someone at that location to even answer the phone. When the contractor came out, they said I had the wrong plan, and “Well, we got to fix that if that’s the case”, and I changed to a 10-item plan. But, I’ve had these guys for 11 years at my other house and I never had a problem with anything that I needed them for, that’s including the garage door, and this time, they changed the policy on me.
When I got it, I didn’t realize that they had changed the policy, so I just flipped to the page where that would be, and it said covered, so as far as I’m concerned, I was covered. I called and called them and when I finally got a hold of them, I found out that I had to get a new contract because the garage door opener, the washer, and the dryer weren’t covered. They didn’t talk to me to see what I needed the policy for. I told them I needed the policy and they said, “Okay, we’ll send one out to you. It’ll cost you $32 dollars a month.”
I eventually got a garage door company out there. They had to replace the track, wheels, everything but the door because it had been installed incorrectly. It had chewed up the gears inside the garage door opener and it was mounted too high. So when it tried to push down the door, it was not supposed to go any further, and that’s six inches above the floor. It would just push it and grind on it till it got down. That was a chain driver system and I had one spring that looked like a snake going along the ground, with all the twists and turns in it. I could have just changed one and waited for the other one to go in a few weeks, but it cost me $1000. The opener wasn’t the cheapest opener either.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I was doing some investigative work to see what kind of home warranty I could get being a homeowner and I knew some of my appliances had the warranty that went along with the products when I bought them, but they were getting ready to expire. A friend of mine told me about AHS, then I made the call and talked to their representative. But I was already sold because of what my friend was telling me about his experiences.
I recently had my refrigerator repaired and my pipe done. It was easy to go online when filing the claim since you have to wait a bit getting to talk to a person if you call. I’ve only been with American Home Shield since August and the reps and contractors that I dealt with were efficient and very courteous. Their reps were able to help with whatever concern I had and the contractors made sure the work area was tidy when they were done. I had to have my refrigerator serviced more than once, but it’s an old refrigerator. So now, we’re on to another circuit board, which had to be replaced. They told me that if this didn't work, then I’d get my item replaced. I told my friends that they should check out AHS.

My furnace is very old and it is located in my bedroom so that’s where I only have heat. The lack of repair affected us where one room was 64 degrees and the next room was 90. I submitted the service call to American Home Shield, and I've had seven calls to the repairman since November on my furnace claim. The repairman said that something on it was broken and they've been here so many times. On the seventh call, they found that it was not fixable so they're going to replace it. It was the same contractor every time. The repairman was the one who submitted for the replacement and then I called and said ok to American Home Shield. They’re coming on Tuesday. I love American Home Shield and I've already recommended four people to them.

We were with another home warranty and switched to American Home Shield because they have the best reputation in the industry. The most difficult claim I had with AHS was with my plumbing issues. We have all copper fixtures in bathrooms and I felt that the people they sent out were really unreliable. They came from a long distance and we live in rural Georgia up in the mountains. They can only come out a certain day of the week. Then when they could come out they would cancel or they say, “We’re going to be out Thursday. Oh, there was a mix up in the office.” I would wait all day for them and they wouldn’t come. We went on and on.
The guy finally came out and he was just unbelievable. He was new to the company and he seemed to be afraid to make a decision or work on the copper. He basically called the owner of the company and said, “You know, I think all these faucets need replacing.” Copper faucets are really expensive. My husband didn’t feel that they needed replacing and he thought that there could be something done. But they said, “No. We can’t order parts and we can’t do anything.”
I felt that the plumber was not forthcoming and not the best that could be. He came back and he was here for about five hours, charged me $500 and pretty much left without fixing much of anything. Now I got to find a private plumber to come and finish, which is going to end up costing me a whole lot more than what I was given. I wanted to get a second opinion on it but it was so difficult to get anybody out here that I felt, “Well, maybe we should just work through this.”
This has been going on for six months and I took a buy out from American Home Shield. I’m in the process of trying to get things fixed, trying to fix what we can and replace what we can’t. American Home Shield was more than fair. I moved 23 times so I have lots of experience with home warranty companies. However, I sometimes feel that the contractors they get are not the best. We also had a heating problem and we used someone. They were absolutely fabulous. Then two days after he came, it stopped working again and I quickly put in a claim. The lady from the place quickly called me back and promised to have somebody out, which she did. I was very pleased with them and that was a very positive experience.
Also I tried to put my claims in online and that works if it’s a new claim. I could have a plumbing stoppage in the next day and another. But it won’t let me go through because it says I already put in a claim for a plumbing stoppage. If you ever have to get a hold of AHS you’re on the phone for a minimum of an hour to two waiting. So I wish AHS had more accessibility and better contractors.

I had to get my furnace checked. I submitted my claim with AHS online and I got a message. They assigned me to a company and the company contacted me within 24 hours. My parents met with the contractor and they found out that the problem was not my furnace. The reason why it didn’t get very hot was I simply had a draft coming in through under the door. Last year, they sent out Three Brothers company to fix my AC. They said that it needed more coolant so, I paid $700 for more coolant, but it quickly went out because there was a hole in the AC. If the hole isn’t patched, the coolant will simply flow out. I called American Home Shield again and explained to them that whoever they sent out the first time didn’t properly do the job. They didn’t really seem to care in any way so, I had to get the same problem fixed twice.
In addition, I had a problem with my plumbing with the bathroom sink and they sent someone over, but then, there was another issue with another sink within a month so, it's a different issue. There was a miscommunication so, it became a repeat order instead of a whole new work order. I called AHS but I couldn't get in touch with anyone. I tried a couple of times because I simply wanted to go over some billing stuff and I was on hold for over an hour. They told me that the wait time was one to two hours to speak to somebody so, I simply gave up. Their customer service is very poor. Although I renewed them out of habit, I wouldn’t enthusiastically recommend them.

My furnace keeps popping up an error code 91 and turning off and won't kick back on. The problem started around August and one unit is the chronic culprit. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield by phone. I tried to do it through their website but I needed to give them more information because it's the same unit but the website didn't give me the opportunity to put in that comment. Then, I am paying for something that I shouldn’t have to pay for because they were just out here a few weeks ago. I shouldn’t have to repay again for a visit within so many days and I've got caught in that one time when I tried to do it by email. I’m not going to do it again that way because I never will see a refund. If you call American Home Shield, you always have to wait but that’s okay. They’ve been wonderful in getting people out here.
Everything on that furnace had been replaced except the thing outside. Every panel, blower, and other parts but it still keeps doing it. It's not solving the problem. We changed companies this fall per my request because the first company wasn’t so hot. The problem is the unit needs to be replaced and I understand the process to replace it but in the long run, this is costing them more money. I called AHS today because the same furnace went out again and they had somebody scheduled within 15 minutes to come out but he can't come out until Thursday, but AHS was right on top of it once I called them. The contractor they currently have is a very good company and I'm very happy with them. They come exactly on time, come when they say they are, and I get a text. It's a very efficient process.
I've been very pleased with AHS as they are excellent. I bought a policy for my condo and a policy for my home and renewed the policy with the condo when it came due and I definitely will renew the one in my home. The people of AHS go out of their way to be courteous and they are very professional with all the calls and circumstances that I've given to them. They came right to the rescue.

I had an attic fan that went out and submitted the claim to AHS online, and it was a pretty quick response. Their site was very user-friendly. The other section where I could explain a little bit more when submitting a claim only had electrical and I really couldn't give more information on what the problem was. Other than that, filing was pretty easy.
The contractor that came out was very prompt and on time. Unfortunately, he had an issue with the stock with the size of the fan that I needed and wasn't able to complete the repair the first time. It's still not completed right now. He had to go back and find a fan that could fit the opening that I currently have because the current fan didn't have any information. It was all wiped out. But other than that, he was very easy to work with and very responsive to questions. AHS gave a time frame on it and just had to contact the contractor and get it all straightened out. Everything's been going pretty good and I'll recommend them. There were a lot of the home shields that I've dealt with and AHS has been the best so far.

My experience with American Home Shield has been terrible. I have spent half an hour on the line several times, sometimes as much as 45 minutes. They also keep sending me emails saying that I owed them money. I emailed them back and I refuse to go online. I don't want to do another password, I don't want to do another site, but I have to take time on the internet because my internet is not that strong. The reps are always very sweet, except for one. I picked up after 30 minutes and we got disconnected, and then I waited for another 15 to 20 minutes. I’m a full-time caregiver to my husband because of Alzheimer’s, so I can’t spend a lot of time on the computer, and I’m very offended that it takes so darn long to get an answer.
I had a plumber come out because I had leaky faucets. My faucets were all just dripping and you had to over push to close them. He came out and he pulled the little fencer things out of them and replaced them. He had to replace the turnoff valve underneath in the bathroom because it didn’t turn off. He thought it was turned off and when he pulled it, it flooded everything and made a huge mess. It’s the guest bathroom and I don’t go back there very often. Then I finally had some guests, and it passed the 30-day mark, and it’s leaking back there. I wondered why my water bill was so high. I called American Home Shield and they said “Oh, it’s past 30 days, we can’t take care of it. You have to pay another $100 dollars,” so I could have paid a plumber $200 dollars and gotten it fixed differently.
I have an issue as well with an electrician. He came out and he changed the switch and that was great. He changed the under-counter light because the ballast was out and it was easier for him to get a whole new light fixture so we set it up underneath there. But I can’t get the bulb out to see if it’s the bulb and the light is out. It’s been over 30 days and I talked to American Home Shield about that as well. They told me the same thing. Over 30 days, you have to pay another $100 dollars. I could have gotten my electrician to come do it for a whole lot less.
The contractors were very nice and I was very happy until I found out that they didn’t do what they needed to do. They stopped a leak and they fixed another under-counter light to last more than 30 days. I have two homes and I have them both covered by American Home Shield. I was very pleased with the air conditioning guy that came out for the other address and I was very happy with the way they fixed my rain shed.
I also had a claim with my double oven. It is not repairable and they gave me an adequate exchange, but the only color they could give me was stainless steel. I called, and after 35 minutes waiting, I talked to a lady and I had looked online and I knew there was a black one available for the same amount of money. It was within the budget but it was just not the exact same style as what they were going to replace it with and I told them that I wanted the black one. They said, “Well, it wasn’t in the production right now”, and they would let me know when it was under production. I have black appliances and I wanted to stay with what I have. Now I’ve been without an oven there since before Christmas.
With my refrigerator, Nestor Appliance came to fix it and did a great job with the flap because the seal around it was torn and leaking. They ordered a new seal, and the new seal came in but it didn’t fix that refrigerator. The tech's solution was to put the old seal on and that was good. But it still leaked so they came out again under the same $100 dollars and they are fixing it for me. I am dissatisfied with American Home Shield because of the long waits on the phone, and because of the inadequacy of getting something to last over 30 days.

I have had American Home Shield for about 16 years. One time I sat on hold for about an hour and 45 minutes. I'm used to being able to call in and get somebody within 20 minutes. Moreover, they don't seem to want to replace anything anymore. They want to fix things multiple times when it would have been cheaper if they just replaced it the first time versus sending four or five different service people out to replace the part four or five times. We've had somebody out a dozen times since April and the AC still has issues. Adding up every time they have a service fee, every time they have to call a contractor out, order a part and come back out, it would have been cheaper to get it done the first time.
When we first got AHS we called them for our AC. The contractor looked at it, called AHS, and replaced the whole unit. Now, they want customers to get so frustrated that they just go ahead and do it themselves. I had a friend who had American Home Shield. She called on the phone, but nobody came out. She couldn't go without it so they went ahead and just had it fixed themselves. I had made a comment on Facebook and said they need to do something about their service because they're just going to lose customers. I keep AHS to make it easy for our family because I have a husband who has kidney failure and he is not able to do this stuff. It's like being a single parent, a female and not able to do her own work.
Sometimes I've had really good contractors that come out and they go above and beyond to try to make me happy They get the part in as soon as possible. Then there are some companies, like with our water heater, where we went about three weeks without hot water. I spend $800 a year plus $75 service fee. I can't afford to go out and buy a new hot water heater since I'm already spending that kind of money. So I was boiling water in a pot every night and pouring it in my kids' bathtub so they can take a warm bath. I could have called a plumber and had it fixed in two days. But after we've spent that kind of money, I feel AHS just needs to have more compassion.
Hello, Katrina. I understand the frustrations of your A/C not working on a consistent level. AHS is a repair warranty and we do opt for repairs instead of replacements unless the technician advises that the replacement is necessary. We do appreciate that you have had our services for so many years and hope that we can continue to serve your family. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experiences. In dealing with American Home Shield you should look closely at the repair cost. We had an ongoing issue with the air conditioner and they were coming out at least once a year. I would pay the $75 but they would just put bandage on it and get it going temporarily. It needed to be replaced and I got tired messing with it so I had to go and replace it myself. But more recently I had two claims at the same time. We had two parts come in for the dryer and it got fixed all right.
The other claim is for the dishwasher and the technician had to order a bunch or parts. We just barely fell short of the threshold for having that replaced altogether. The technician will do the repairs all at the same time because he comes up from Birmingham which is about an hour and a half drive. We've got all the parts in except for one, which is on backorder but it has been three weeks now and we're still waiting to find out on that. That aside the technicians have been very personable. They explained the situation and they've been real good.

We were out of the house for about four and a half months because we had been flooded. The air compressor had been on the whole time even though the house was vacant. Then the time that we got to move in, the house was really cold and the compressor didn't work. We filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, it was over the weekend and they came out and fixed it pretty quickly. The technicians seemed to be great. I was with them at the first appointment when they said what they were going to do and my husband was here on the second when they came back and got what we needed. Both of us had a good experience with them. All we had to do was pay the fee and then the Freon fee. So we were really happy and that's supposed to give us another 10 years life on the compressor.
Before that, we had our microwave oven combination that stopped working and they gave us a deal. We got a nice unit to replace it and we just paid a little extra to get stainless steel. That also was a great experience. They're there every time we needed them. We're a long-term customer of American Home Shield and have recommended them over and over.

During my claim for my washer and dryer, I had a good experience with American Home Shield. But when I had to put an island hood over our stove, everything that could go wrong with it did. AHS assigned people to come out to my house. I paid the first guy who came $75 but he told me that he didn't service island hoods. AHS then sent out another company but they also didn't service island hoods. They sent another guy but he didn't come out. They assigned me another guy and when he came out, he told me that he was going to order the hood. I waited months and months and I found out that he never ordered the hood. This issue went on for years. Then, I finally found somebody in the company who knew what they were doing and they finally went to the general managers. AHS finally told me to get it fixed and we finally did three months ago and it's working wonderfully.
I wanted to buy the hood from Sears, but AHS doesn't allow them to work on our hoods. Also, all the people that American Home Shield sent us told us that they'd put the hood in but not out. The guy I found agreed to take the unit out and then I sweet-talked him into putting it in. However, I'm still not finished with this issue. When I submitted them the invoice, which was $1300, AHS only sent me $1050 despite them giving me permission to submit the invoice up to $1300. I now have to go back and submit another invoice for the rest of the money that they approved and getting on their lines normally takes 45 minutes.
Walter, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

Back in the 90’s, my mortgage was through Countrywide and they added American Home Shield to my monthly payment. Our washer was 13 years old when the problem started 3 years ago and AHS keeps replacing major parts in it instead of replacing the washer. It's really annoying because I asked them several times. A couple of years ago, they replaced something that was only worth $250 new and they put more into that. This last time was a real problem because they kept sending somebody who couldn’t fix it and I was without a washer for almost three months and they still wouldn’t replace it.
The wait times, when I call, are bad. I'm on hold for an hour or at least 30 minutes. The contractors they send, for the most part, are all right. The one they sent from the appliance company for the washer just couldn’t fix it. He was a nice enough guy and there wasn’t a problem with him. They finally sent Sears and I had to wait another three weeks but they fixed it. But I'm tired of paying the $75 deductible every six months on a 15-year-old washer. I used to have a lot of confidence in American Home Shield but after this last time, not so much.

And by the next day we had a technician out here to look at the situation and it got fixed right away. It turned out to be minor. My dryer is going on a fret so I'll be calling back. But still I'm glad we took the step. The technicians were very nice and very professional. I recommend American Home Shield. I would tell of my experiences of how I've encountered friendly people and knowledgeable technicians and how I didn't have to wait forever to get things done.

I had two claims at one time, one for the house in Phoenix and one for the one here in Tucson, and one was so much quicker than the other. For the one in Phoenix, the claim was for my water heater. I called the company and they called me back. A technician was there the next day and then it took three days to get approved. The technician then put what I needed in that house.
Meanwhile, for the house here in Tucson, I had the claim in for three weeks and it was for my dishwasher that was not working. The first company was ready to go out but when they Googled the place, they didn't go to the mountain. So they had to call American Home Shield and told them that they didn't go that far. AHS gave me another company but the guy had so much work that it took three and half weeks. Finally, I called American Home Shield and told them to get me another vendor. I told them too that compared to my other claim, this one was just lingering. Finally, a guy showed up and everything worked out fine.
When technicians come, I tell them who I am, ask them what needs to be done and what we are going to do from there. They pretty much tell me. My properties are a rental so I'm usually there because I want to know what's going on and because those are my items. Most of the technicians do really good. I had one claim in July for a refrigerator and the guy who came was a little cookie because he told me exactly what it needed. It finally was set and done, but I was very upset with American Home Shield because it was a refrigerator and the people lost some food that was in there. It was like there was no way to get anything approved any faster so I wasn't too happy with that one.
I write down everything that's said to me. When the little contractor went to fix it, I told him that I thought it needed a new compressor because it was what was written. I said, "You can call American Home Shield because I'm going to call them right now because I don't want to be charged for that." I got a hold of American Home Shield and had them on speakers and the technician told them that he didn't need the compressor after all. Overall, it's been a hit and miss but for the most part, I'm satisfied. A lot of times you think you are safe and things are covered. But when it comes down to it, you have to still pay $400 out of pocket.
Also, I've never had a problem with one of my freezers and I've had several. Years ago it didn't matter how many refrigerators or freezers you had. But I found out while I was at a friend's house that her refrigerator wasn't working in the garage. I asked if she called American Home Shield but she said AHS only covers for one which I thought was very odd. Other than those, I tell others to go ahead and go with American Home Shield.

My heating unit went out. The techs came out and they were friendly and did a professional job. We had several appointments but they had to order the hot water heater and it was during the holiday so that was expected. But the performance of the heating unit has been top rate since. Everything was excellent with how American Home Shield handled it and they're a lifesaver.

When my refrigerator broke, I made a claim to American Home Shield and the repairman they sent out said nothing’s wrong. I told him that I paid $100 to AHS to make sure that my refrigerator is fixed properly and he just plugged it in and out. That’s not fixing it and I can do it myself. He told me to call them back if I experience other problems. A week later, the refrigerator broke down again and the guy came out. I hadn't thrown away all my food. They said that he fixed it. He said he's got the part needed and put it in. The part went bad in two weeks. I bought another $400 worth of food and had to throw that away as well.
They came out the third time and they were saying that it’s going to work. I asked them what they know about what happened the second time which gives them so much assurance and certainty that it's going to work this time. I also asked them if they put in the right part the second time or if they gave me a refurbished part. I’m losing hours from work sitting here since the windows are eight hours, or at a minimum, five. I can't go to work, and then, be here at the same time. They said that's what their hours are. I asked them if I was going to get compensated for the food that I lost because of their incompetent technicians. It wasn’t my fault and they said it was going to work. I bought food both times and lost the food. When we tried to call them back, they don't answer.
You have to call American Home Shield in order to call them to set up an appointment and you're on hold no less than an hour. So, I called them in the morning as I'm getting dressed and by the time I get to work, I can speak to a representative. But they didn't say anything about re-compensating me for the food that I lost. The repair people are rude and they don't feel as though they need to answer any of your questions because they feel like they're being paid by the insurance. So, I can't deal with it and after this repair, I'm going to be away with the warranty.
If people can find their own repairman and then see if American Home Shield can reimburse them because it would eliminate having them come out three or four times. They don't respect our time. After we get off the holidays, a lot of people are exhausted and they’re PTO on vacation time and when they give us huge windows, we have to take off work. People don't have to be bothered with having to address the same issue three times. That's ridiculous because it's a serious matter. I can't eat, I can't have water and I can't have food in my house because the refrigerator is important. AHS don't take their time to find quality repair people. They take whoever is desperate for work and usually, the people that are desperate for work are no good. But then, when I got my own person to try to repair, AHS was willing to give me back everything I spent.

Our air conditioning heat pump wasn't working and I submitted a claim to AHS. When I call them, they tell me the wait is two hours and it was too long for their rep to answer but I know they have more than one person answering the phone. Once I reach them, the dealing was very good. However, the original company that they had scheduled couldn't come out till the following Tuesday which was not acceptable. They told me that they would recommend another company when we call them back and this company came out the next day. The tech fixed it in 15 minutes. The air conditioner has been working very well since then.
When they called the second company, we automatically figured that they were going to call the first one and cancel the appointment. But after we had our air conditioning company completed the repair, the first company called on Monday morning and said that they were scheduled tomorrow so somebody did not call and notified them. I told them that we already got this thing as completed and they handle with AHS any issues they have as far as the service contract calls or cancellation. Other people say AHS wasn't any good. Their wait time was also ridiculous. Other than that, I would recommend them highly.

I called American Home Shield over the phone to have the vent over the stove repaired. I had to keep calling them back since the problem hasn't been rectified. The wait time on the phone is an hour and a half and when I call the 800 number, I'm on hold just as long. I just put them on speaker phone and did some work while I waited. A guy came out and tried to repair it. He got it going, but right before Christmas, it went back out. It was still not fixed by New Year and I couldn't do anything for Christmas. Normally, I bake cakes and different kind of pies, however, anything I cooked had to be on the top of my oven. It was almost to the point where I wanted to just go and say, “Forget it.”
One time, I decided to stay up because I needed that repair. It was 12:00 where I was. I called the 800 number, but it still took a long time. Moreover, that agent was very rude. I’ve had some that have been very nice and patient with me, while others just ask if I want to cancel. The agent I had that night asked me if I wanted to cancel my policy. He said that he can put me through to someone who can cancel my policy if I'm not happy. I reported this back in July and it got fixed in November.

We bought a 17-year old house so we thought there's a lot of stuff that could go wrong. And sure enough, there have been a few things, like when the heating went out. I was really pleased that American Home Shield came out. They sent someone to fix the panel right up. The heating started working again and life was good. Recently, we had a clog in our sink in one of the bathrooms upstairs. We tried Drano and a few other home fixes and nothing was working. So that's when I filed the claim online. And so American Home Shield sent out Nate's, and the people from the plumbing company had little sticks and mud and everything. They said that what likely happened was that we've got tree roots invading our plumbing system. Unfortunately, it wasn't covered by the plan.
Since I've read the plan information, I was fine with that. So I just thanked them and said that I'll give it to my husband and see what he wants to do. Overall, I did a lot of research before choosing American Home Shield and I found that this is a company that was highly recommended through all of my review and research. And they have done nothing but prove that all of that is correct. I was really pleased and I definitely recommend them.

We filed a claim for non-working AC. Service representative was 6 hours late for appointment. Said would take 7-10 days to get approval from AHS. Never heard back. Tried to call AHS and was on hold for over an hour. Finally hung up. Tried several more times. Gave up and filed complaint with State Insurance Commission. AHS finally called and got the service company to fix AC. This was in the middle of the summer and took well almost 2 months. I would never use this company again. Worst home warranty plan we have ever had!

Our fan broke and wasn't blowing hot air. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield online and was worried doing it because it was the weekend before Christmas, and I didn't know how fast they would get to it. We have young children in the house. But AHS submitted my referral straight away and emailed me the contact information of the contractor and I was able to get a hold of them right away, which I really appreciated. The contractor went out of their way to send someone here on the eve before Christmas to see if they could fix it, and I really appreciated the extra step they took for us. The repair guy was very professional and friendly. He was around for an hour, took his time, tested everything, and did a whole inspection on the fan just to make sure nothing else was going on.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to fix it that day because the warehouse for the parts was closed, and we still ended up having to go without heat. Then on Tuesday after Christmas, they called right away, around 8:00 in the morning to let me know that they were working on getting the part for me. They came out that day around 12:00 and fixed the fan. The fan is making a little noise now when it is pulling the air in, so I might need to call them to do a follow-up but other than that, it's working great.

My plan covering plumbing, electrical, and HVAC is worthless. Not only does American Home Shield provide incompetent and irresponsible contractors, they also get an “F” in customer service. After a sewage backup in my master bathtub, the plumber they sent could not clear the clog but assured me that he was immediately submitting an authorization request to AHS to enable him to proceed with the work. 2 days later and multiple calls to the plumber and AHS have resulted in nothing. Multiple requests to AHS to hear from a manager has yielded no results. This company is a complete rip-off and I am extremely frustrated that I’ve paid them to get zero service. Don’t waste your money with them. They are the worst!

I had called AHS about the light in the ceiling fan not working. I had also sent an email. I had called three times, spoke to three different people, and they kept saying that they’re going to pass it over to some other department. However, I’ve never received a callback. Then I called again in December and again in January. However, my ceiling fan is still not taken care of. Then they charged me for service when nothing was even done. I had to go through a long process for them to try and give me my credit back. They said that it was taken care of, but I haven’t received my statement yet to see if it was credited back to my card. They never even discussed why they haven’t sent someone out to fix the lamp on my ceiling fan yet.
When I spoke to one young lady she said that she didn’t know why Wiltshire didn’t call or show up. She said that she was going to look into it and call me the following day, but she never called. I called back and got ahold of a gentleman. He said that he was going to send it to another department which is higher up. I don’t remember what the department was called, but they were supposed to look into the situation. I never received any information back from them yet.
I called again and spoke to another gentleman who said that he was going to send it to some other department. We were trying to get the lamp taken care of before our renewal, but they kept saying that they'll pass it up to this department or that department. Our contract came up for renewal and it is upsetting that here I am paying for service and service hasn’t been taken care of. I told them that because of that delay, I didn't want to renew my contract, but it automatically renewed. We also had another issue, and they took care of that one.

I was with Old Republic before and we wanted to increase our coverage but they said they could only do it during the purchase of a home. So we looked at different companies and American Home Shield pitched a good line. But in hindsight, they're not a better company. I've only had experiences with two vendors but for the same amount of money that I spent with Old Republic, the quality of service is very diminished with AHS. I even went to contact them through their complaint line and they basically replied with contractual jargon.
I made two claims through American Home Shield, for the gas furnace and the plumbing. I was able to submit the claim over the phone and the interaction with the representative was great. But the first time the contractors showed up for the heating element, it was six hours after their four-hour window. That wasted my whole day. There was a lack of punctuality from the companies AHS had decided to contract with and yet, they did nothing to really make it right.
Unfortunately, I spent two hours just trying to phone contact someone on AHS' end then they told me to take it up with the company even though they were the ones that linked me up with the company. I was really disappointed. The technician eventually called me and said that he was on his way. The people above him overbooked him but if at some point, he knew that he was not going to be able to make this window, why did he not give the customer a courtesy call? They were not dedicated to keeping the customer up to speed.
They always tell you that they're going to call you within 30 minutes before they show up. The second time the same company showed up to repair the furnace, we were coming to the end of the four-hour window so I called the company. They told me they would do it, that they were still within their window and to call them back. So once again, the people were late and I didn't get a courtesy call until after the four-hour window.
Anyway, the technician showed up and did what he was supposed to do in a timely manner and there have been no issues with the unit since then. But from start to finish, it took over 30 days for them to actually fix my unit. The first time the people came out, they said they needed a part but that they would get the part in and try to get me done before the holidays. The part came in but they didn't have any technicians that were available until weeks later.
With the plumbing service call that I put in, the people came within a couple of days. They contacted me to schedule a date and that was fine. But I asked if I could pay additional money for an upgrade and they did offer me an upgrade but I would have paid more for the actual device than it cost because I was looking at the manufacturer's website. Where was even the credit from American Home Shield? So I didn't think it was a big deal. The vendor was trying to modify what it is that my contract says that they will do so that wasn't really a knock on American Home Shield but I was disappointed.
American Home Shield also needs a better phone infrastructure. I've called them a total of eight times, and each time, it took over two hours just to get to a live person. Maybe that's normal but I've only dealt with one other home warranty company and that wasn't the case. As soon as our contract is over, we're definitely going to be in the market for a new home warranty company.

I recently had a problem with my heating and air conditioning. I called and spoke to a professional rep. The contractor they sent was good but I'm considering switching from American Home Shield because I noticed that they tend to use companies that don't have good ratings. They were going to send somebody else out but when I found they had terrible reviews, I told AHS not to send them out. They sent this other guy out and he was better, but he still was only two stars. He seemed thorough but was nonchalant. He didn't carry the part in his truck too and I had to wait a week for it which I didn't like. But my air conditioning has been good since the repair and I'm able to run my heat now. Overall, AHS needs to use better quality people and I'd tell other not to use them because of the people they hire. I've had other companies that are better.

Last November, the furnace wasn’t working and a few more months back, there were problems with the air conditioning, too. I called up American Home Shield and it was tough when I was told that they have a 24-hour service but they couldn’t get a hold of anybody on the weekend. Especially in August when we had to sit in the house but still had to get stuff done because we were moving. It was 117 degrees in the house and we had to wait.
They came on Monday but we had to wait until Tuesday to get it fixed because instead of screws holding the cover down, the guy who lived in the house before put in rivets and the tech that came out said that he couldn’t work with the motor. He told us that we needed to have somebody else to do it and the second guy that came out was nice to look at things and understood that the breaker was bad. He said that the other guy was giving me the runaround. He also said that he was going to give me a new breaker and would write it up. I appreciated that. Then he put screws back in the unit and got everything to work. We had to pay more for them to come out and the last thing I was told was if the furnace or air conditioner goes, we would have to buy our own.
We also had a plumbing problem. The guy who came out was nice and he said the issue could be on the outside wall. But he was wrong. We made a 12-inch square by one inch knocking out the stucco and it turned out that he was able to find the trap in the house. He just had to go over one more door. I found some wood flooring that I had and he made that up for us for the time being. We understand mistakes, but being a professional plumber, he should be able to check stuff down and find out where the trap was.

About three days before New Year’s, I had an issue with the garbage disposal and called American Home Shield. I called that company and the guy I spoke with was really nice. He said they'd be here tomorrow morning, and sure enough, they came. The water went right through the garbage disposal onto the inside cabinet onto the floor. The guy explained that there were some spills because of hot waters over time. He popped the old one off, popped the new one on and he was out of here. The same thing happened about 10 years ago, and we were with AHS that time as well. Once, we didn’t get the air conditioner fixed for three days, and it was 100 degrees all three days. But stuff like that happens. Normally it takes two days from the time you call American Home Shield until they can get someone out to provide the service that you need. But the winter temperatures in Southern Illinois are going to be down around zero tonight and for the next three nights. I worry that if we have a problem with our furnace, I can’t wait two days to get a repairman. I haven’t run into that problem yet but if they can’t get somebody out within two days, then I’ll have to work something else out. My air conditioning and heating unit is also covered. It’s hotter in the summertime and when something happens to the unit, you need service almost immediately. If worse comes to worst and I can find somebody who will come and fix it, and I’ll just have to pay the price. I hope that I don't run into that though.
Right before Christmas, my wife didn’t think the oven was working properly and we called American Home Shield. The lady I talked to was going to schedule an appointment with a local repair service. But I told her I knew that place and they don't work on the Samsung products that we have. So she checked it out and came back to confirm what I said. She then set me up with Sears instead and they were out the next day. The representative found out that there was nothing wrong with the oven and everything was working fine.
I had one other claim and it was for our Samsung washer. Sears came out and basically said they could fix it but it would be two weeks before they could get out. American Home Shield called and gave us the option to either take what it would cost on the repair towards a new machine or they would go ahead and get it repaired. We decided that we didn’t want any more Samsung products. We asked the guy from Sears what company they have the least service calls on for washing machines. He said LG so we bought one and we’ve been extremely happy with it.
The only problem I have is the way that Sears works. They set up an appointment with you some time between 8:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the afternoon but they usually show up either late in the afternoon or in the evening. So somebody has to be around all day to be ready when they get there. That’s not on American Home Shield but Sears seems to be one that they use a lot on repairs. They would call, let me know they're coming and then show up. But otherwise, I would have to sit there all day and wait.

Last year, we had a claim for the air conditioner and the contractor took a long time to come out and fix it. They ordered parts, sent a technician out and he said that he couldn’t put those kinds of parts on that air conditioner so that took another long two or three weeks. It was almost a month before we could get heat. We went and bought space heater because I had a baby that’s in the house and we had to have some heat for him. And we also needed heat for ourselves because that was in the winter time. Other than that, we don’t have any other problems so far. They came back and fixed it again but it went out a third time. They finally found that it was a defective wire and repaired it, and it has worked fine since then. The people from Cote's were excellent. However, I usually waited up to an hour if I wanted to speak to a representative on the phone. Also, things have gotten more expensive. I have submitted two claims to American Home Shield since I have lived here. The week we moved in, we had a cold snap and we were not able to produce heat as both furnaces had issues. They had just been inspected during the process of buying the house. On one of them, a master control board was out. While on the other, the automatic gas valve was out and needed a new thermostat inside the house. Submitting a claim online using my phone was easy. After submitting, I paid for it up front. Within a matter of minutes, the company called me and they were on their way. The contractor that came out from Oakes Air Conditioning was very knowledgeable and friendly. I also got the impression that he was willing to stay until the problem was fixed. They were able to get everything fixed right on site.
Around new year we thought we had a water leak. It was over the weekend and it took three days for that contractor to respond and I had to initiate the call to them the next day. They said that they would try to work with me in the next 24 to 48 hours. I ended up canceling that and didn't fulfill that claim. I saw that I got the credit for that one and we ended up not having a water leak. It was another issue and was an easy fix. If I do have a plumbing issue in the future, I would request that we not use that contractor. I come from the contracting industry, so I know how it works.

I submitted my claim online and then I called. American Home Shield's website was okay but the phone was ridiculous. I was on the phone waiting for over an hour. I have little kids and I have my mother who's older. I called overnight when I found what was freezing and they told me somebody would come by tomorrow morning but nobody came. I called around noon to tell them again and they said, "Well we're still looking for somebody." It was more than 24 hours but once they found the guy, the person came and found the problem. He was very professional and he did very well. We have to wait for the parts he said he ordered so we did. It was a day or two when he received the part.
The contractor was very good. He communicated well with me and my husband. When he said he was coming, he came and once I told him I have little kids, he had us prioritized. He said he had another job but he said, "Actually let me just come. I'll come as soon as I can." I've seen few people in the past that really say their customer service wasn't that good but this person was really good.
However, I had another claim during summertime for my air conditioner and that experience was horrible. I found somebody not from AHS because I have little kids and it was summertime. He said the problem was A, B, C. I waited for AHS's contractor to come. The contractor told me, that was not the problem. They were avoiding to fix the major problem. "You're putting a bandage on this. The freon was leaking and it's gonna keep leaking. Once you fix the leaks it wouldn't solve the problem. The problem is for you is to replace the entire air condition."
I paid 5,000 out of my pocket and AHS sent me a check, but I've never cashed it. It was over a hundred and twenty-something. I was very disappointed. I said, "You promised me if something goes wrong, you guys fix or replace." After dealing with them for over a week and my kids are suffering and my mom is suffering, she's older, I didn't have a choice. I couldn't afford to stay in the hotel. I went ahead and replaced all things by myself. I complained but I didn't feel my complaint was going anywhere.

I tried to file a claim online for a problem with electrical wiring and a switch and I have had this problem every year since I’ve been with American Home Shield. If I’m filing a claim online right after the beginning of the contract renewal, it won’t let me in. The first time that it happened I called AHS and they said that it’s a computer problem and that I just have to call the number until it’s resolved but it has never been resolved. So, I always have to resort to calling them by phone. Their reps were very responsive. I know that they handled the claim right away because that day or the next morning, I would get a call from the contractor. Most of the contractors sent out were very good.
The one this time, the contractor was trying to fix the switch to a ceiling fan that controls lights and the fan. Frankly, his remedy was not acceptable and that’s when he said they would have to order a new part. So far, it has been a week and they called yesterday and scheduled an appointment for next week. I had another problem with a ceiling fan which had to be replaced. I have all designer fans in my house and the only thing they would pay for was a contract fan. By the time I replaced the fan with what I wanted, I was out of pocket $800. They didn’t cover that although I hoped they would. Overall, I’m not terribly dissatisfied but I’m not terribly happy either with American Home Shield.

I filed two claims with American Home Shield. One was a great experience and the other was a bad one. The first claim was a bad experience. I was on the phone for 50 minutes and got hung up on. I had to call back and I was there for another 50 minutes. I finally got a hold of somebody and they set an appointment. I wasn’t getting good airflow in one room of the house and all the HVAC is supposed to be covered under the warranty.
They sent out an HVAC guy and he said that there was some ductwork that was knocked off and needed to be repaired but AHS wouldn’t cover it because they can’t tell if it was covered prior to me buying the house. So, I had to get an A/C guy to come out here and fix something that was already covered under the contract. It only took them two seconds and some duct tape to put the thing back together. I talked to AHS rep on the phone and it didn't go that well. They were very standoffish and weren’t helpful. It felt like they were doing everything they could to not honor the contract.
For the second claim, I did everything online and it went great. During the purchase of our house, we upgraded our contract to cover the pool as well as the pool equipment. Our pool pump had some issues and went out by the time the pool guy got here. It was leaking and he fixed it. He was really friendly and did a good job. Because of my first experience, I was super apprehensive about even calling them out for the pool since I have a pool guy, however, since it was covered I thought to give it one more shot. However, the distaste of the first initial experience still was not made up for the fact that I got a good experience on the second time. I still feel like I got cheated on that one. I had to pay $150 altogether for the guy to come out, the labor and everything. I definitely would not recommend American Home Shield and I won’t sign up again once the contract is over.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We called American Home Shield last year to repair the furnace. They had sent a technician and he said there was nothing wrong with the furnace so, we spent a really cold winter. We couldn't go through that again. I pulled up the company on the Better Business Bureau and they had a rating of F. They weren’t even accredited by Better Business Bureau. I was really concerned about that so I called American Home Shield. I canceled the request and thought I'd schedule a new request but they assigned the same company again. I was really concerned and I called, but I couldn’t get a hold of anybody at American Home Shield. I posted a comment on their Facebook page and somebody called me back right away and explained to me that they don’t go by the Better Business Bureau records and that they go by the surveys of their clients and their experiences. I said that I’d give them a try, but I was really uncomfortable with it.
We played phone tag trying to get an appointment scheduled. One evening, we were sitting down to dinner and the doorbell rang. A gentleman at the door said that he is with American Home Shield, and he was driving by my house and he thought to stop and see if I wanted him to go in and repair the furnace. I agreed. He was with his daughter and they were very knowledgeable, took their time and sat down with us. They took readings and there was a part where it was supposed to be in a certain range and ours was down to zero. They did some cleaning and oiling.
They told us exactly what they did and what the part was. It ended up being one little part that they carried on their truck and it was common for that part to go out on furnaces. They said that it was an older furnace, but due to that extra little stuff that keeps it running, it should be good for quite a while. We haven’t had any trouble with it since so, I was really pleased.

I have an active claim with American Home Shield for a refrigerator replacement. While they have determined that the refrigerator is non-repairable and that it is no longer produced, I've gone on and purchased a new one. Now, I'm just waiting for the reimbursement check from them. Submitting a claim is painless, and American Home Shield is doing everything on the front end pretty good, from the standpoint of calling in, scheduling the service, and dispatching the vendor. But trying to get a follow-up is a really tedious process. You are on the phone for an enormously long period of time waiting for someone to pick up, which they really need to take a look at because they have a customer and they're trying to get a resolution to an issue which just closed out. It's like going to the grocery store and you filled up your bucket then you get to the checkout counter and it's backed up and you only got two cashiers.
I tried to reduce the length of time by putting on the speakerphone and multi-task until somebody gets on the phone. I understand the process and I want to get it handled, so I may tend to stay on the phone. But other customers will hang up. My preference would be for the company to reach out when they know that additional information needs to be acquired. They do a better job of reaching out by email or something that gives the customer attention. And they're trying to push their customers to use the website. So, even though its advertisement said for faster service, go to their website, I can't read the result on the website because I'm waiting out for the information for them to give in order for me to go to the next step. Still, if the whole purpose of buying a warranty is for them to be on the cover when something goes wrong, from that standpoint, I was happy.

For the years that we have been with American Home Shield, we've not had one problem with any claim that we've ever had to file. We do it online and their site is very user-friendly. Generally, less than two hours afterward, I get a confirmation from their service provider notifying me when I can anticipate the service call being completed. And then, when the technician is in route, I actually get an acknowledgment of his movement because I normally meet him at the house.
While we did encounter a problem when they've changed our account number and we failed to receive the notification of that because the system wouldn't acknowledge us -- it was resolved itself on the spot once we got it on the phone. Other than that, they sent out contractors who are reputable, like the last time, the contractor told me he diagnosed the problem with our garbage disposal. That thing was broken and he worked with it without a hitch. Everything's perfect now. Overall, we've been very pleased with the service being provided by American Home Shield. And they've always been excellent with all the service providers that they use.

I originally had a plan for a year that was basically given to me with the purchase of my home and I had a lot of really bad experiences then. I stopped my contract for a while and I gave it about a year. I came back and since then, I’ve only had good experiences. Recently, I was having issues with my furnace not heating up. I contacted American Home Shield over the phone and the reps were great.
But I figured out what the problem was before the technician got there and semi-fixed it myself. I had some drywall worked on and all that dust got stuck up in the vent. It clogged up the furnace filter so even if that was new it would end up getting clogged because it was running a lot that time of the week. I pulled it out a couple of hours before the contractor showed up and the furnace kicked back up. I didn’t realize why until he got there though, and he actually came down, took a look at it, explained what happened and went into the next step. He was super professional, extremely nice, and very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to people looking at having any type of routine maintenance or things that were going to arise.

Almost all of the contractors, except for one that I had last summer, have been great. I filed a claim recently online when a lot of the power sockets in the basement had gone out. An electrician came and was able to figure out which outlet took out all the other circuits. When something is covered, it's done well. However, there are a lot of things that used to be covered that are not covered anymore. So I feel like the product is not as good as it used to be overall because the selection has been reduced.

There was smoke coming out of the washer when I was doing a load of laundry. I tried to get a human being to talk to me so that we could confirm what was going on and what the outtakes were. We took 58 minutes for that one time. American Home Shield had their service company come over. The contractor said the inside of the washer was going but the drum wasn’t which caused the heat and caused the smoke. He also told me that I won’t be able to repair it as it gets too pricey than to get a new washer because they had to get the chassis and repair it. It happened during Christmas time and I’m still waiting for my washer to arrive. They were supposed to have it delivered.
When they first started, it can be delivered 10 to 14 days and nothing happened so I called. And then, they had to get some more confirmation. They gathered the fact to where it will be sent. I called and they finally had January 26 although everything was down even after January 27. The gentleman who came out was great. He looked at it and told me what was going to happen. We've checked that they talked to AHS and they'll be back and contacted them. Overall, AHS took a lot of time and there was lack of communication.

I’m a little disappointed in American Home Shield because it took me an hour to get through a call. It was a call for my heat and I didn’t make it. I waited for my niece to come so she used her phone to go on the website. They took the job but nobody came out. The contractor said that they couldn’t come at night, they can only come during the day. It was cold, I had no heat, and I had nowhere to go. I just bought the house and that was really frustrating. They need to have some kind of emergency because that’s crazy. The technician came at about 3:00 the next day. He said that the humidifier was hooked up to go out to something and it was the pipe outside that had frozen. So he unhooked the humidifier. He got the heat on, but the humidifier is still unhooked. I couldn’t understand that either. It wasn’t a good experience. I was very dissatisfied and it shouldn’t have been like that.

This company is just a scam. Any business day it takes over 45 minutes every time to talk to them. Don't be surprised if it takes more than 1 hour sometimes. The contractors they send are very limited skill set. I had my dishwasher broken, The contractor came to visit, after 10 days. First he tried to convince us to pay extra $100 for regular cleaning and later when we refused he said there is some issue with the pump. Next week he comes and told us to break our countertop or cut the flooring to pull the dishwasher out. It took only 5 minutes for my handyman to pull it out without breaking anything. If I would have followed their advice, I would have end up with a broken countertop or floor.
After all this episode, I lost confidence in the contractor and asked for cash payout so that I can get it fixed myself. It's again a week, I have called them 3 times waiting for over 2 hours in total. Still no resolution. We buy insurance to avoid the hassle, but dealing with them itself is big hassle and pain in itself. Not worth paying 40 bucks a month to these guys. Very unprofessional service.

Does it not seem funny that all the bad reviews are answered with the same stock answer... a social media contact will be made. If you handled your business correctly in the first place, you would not have to worry about what is being said negatively on social media. I have been put on hold multiple times - one experience, I was on hold for 2 hours. I have been cut off; and I have asked that I be transferred, after being on the hold queue for an hour, only to end up back at the first of the queue.
I have an in wall stove unit. AHS sent a repairman over, and rendered the stove unworkable. He told me what I needed to order (regarding the size of the unit). When I finally got ahold of someone, the agent said he would be 'the one' taking me through the process. He took my information and an install company came out with the wrong size oven. AHS says this is MY fault, and wants to charge me a $180 restocking fee. Further they will not send me any other options to choose from because I have not had the ability to look at anything online. So now, I'm stuck with no stove, and no options. I have 2 contracts with the company, and am going to cancel. I'm just waiting on word from my advisor on how to handle moving forward. A JOKE.

They refunded the $125.00 co-pay and the washer was fixed. It's difficult to give 5 stars due to the fact it took from December 17 to January 22 to fix the issue. We are going to keep the home warranty and give them another try if and when something else occurs with one of our appliances. I'm hoping we have made the right decision.

My washing machine quit working December 21. I called AHS to have a service repairman to come out waiting an hour and twenty minutes to speak to someone. The repairman came and stated he would order the part from AHS. We did not hear back from anyone until I called AHS again on January 2nd waiting again well over an hour for a human being to answer. The part was on order and was said to be delivered to repairman. On January 6th he came to do repair but the following day it was not working again. Called AHS. Now waiting almost two hours for someone to answer my call. They sent the gentleman out and he ordered yet ANOTHER part. Today after two weeks I had yet to hear anything from AHS or repairman.
I once again called AHS waiting 48 minutes to be connected to a human. The lady that answered said, "Oh I see the problem. Your part is no longer available," and switched me to purchasing to discuss my options. (When was someone going to let me know this was the issue?) Now I'm waiting 36 minutes for someone to answer in purchasing where they informed me the part was received by the repairman yesterday. I asked, "Which is it? You have the part or it's no longer available?" What a mess. I would NEVER recommend AHS to ANYONE! The most horrible experience with a company I've ever experienced. Of course I've tried to contact the cancellation department and no one ever answered. Surprise surprise! DO NOT use this company for a home warranty.

I switched to American Home Shield and when my furnace kept freezing up on the outside, I filed a claim with them. They sent people to test it and they found it had a leak in one of the coils inside. The contractor called it in and ordered a part, then I had to wait but once the part came in, he came right up and got it down. It only took him two hours to do the job and so far, the furnace is working really good.

When our heating system's motor burned out I did the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and everybody was nice and cordial. The contractor was a nice gentleman. I was so glad because that was right after we had the snow and as soon as they were able to move around they came out to me.
I haven’t had any unhappy experiences and that’s why I had purchased American Home Shield for my three other houses. I will tell my friends about purchasing it as well. I always let them know I don’t have any problems with American Home Shield sending someone out as soon possible. They’re very courteous and the work is always done efficiently. It’s a good product. There was a leak underneath the sink so I requested the service from American Home Shield just like always and they responded appropriately as expected. Once the contractor determined what he needed, he ordered it and the response time was all very reasonable.
However, AHS takes inordinately long when you call for service. The last time I called them I was on the phone waiting for an hour and a half for an operator to come. Back in December I called them to make a claim and then the people came to my house. After two weeks I called them back but they said, “Actually, we are not coming back and just call to Home Shield.” So I called Home Shield and then they told me that they’re going to send somebody for second opinion. That plumbing team told me, “We’re going to fix your water heater or a cash out for you.” But it was costing me a bit more than that. But they only offer me a certain amount. The rest of the money, I have to pay from my pocket.
Sears installed Kenmore 74 gallon for me. I paid some money from pocket. The other stuff, I needed to fix more things, like the faucet was leaking and stoppage, the faucet was not doing right, very minor things are needed. They didn’t call me back on it. So I called back yesterday and they said, “We’re going to put it through with the authorization department and we’ll come and take care of your problem.”
I would really appreciate it if they’d finish the plumbing. I paid my monthly already and the service charge, $75. Then they sent me a bill like I did not pay the $75. I called them and they looked up and said, “You have paid already.” So I hope they remove it because I paid three times already for $75. Other than that they are very good people, skilled, courteouse, cheerful and have good public communication. Everyone I spoke with was very nice, especially Anisha. She went out of her way and said, “I will try to get you plumbing quite shortly.”
Previously my furnace stopped working and they came immediately and fixed the furnace. I called at the same time for the duct problem but they said the duct is a separate claim. And they made me pay $75 twice. The duct people came but I did not like them. They were trying to sell me the new furnace and telling me all the different stories. They were totally unreasonable people. I wish that Home Shield would not use them anymore.
I sent American Home Shield an email, a long letter, regarding what I feel about them. And so other people came and they fixed it within a few minutes. They said it’s a big hole in the duct that’s the reason we were not getting heat. So I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. They’re wonderful and we had a great experience with them. My son had a house and I recommended it to him and he got it.

I had to get outside air conditioner people to say it wasn’t what their people said it was before they would pay it. I was totally unsatisfied with AHS’ response.
I had two different people come out. They were very nice but they were not adequate. They did what AHS wanted them to do and most people would just say, “Okay. It's not covered." I had somebody else come and prove that it should have been. AHS finally paid the claim but it ended up taking four weeks to get it resolved, something that should have been taken care of in two days. It was a royal pain in the ass. The whole reason that I have American Home Shield is to cover these incidences and I hope that in the future if I have a problem with one of my other appliances, I won’t have the same problems that I had. However, it takes so long for AHS to send people out. They give you a window of time and you’re sitting there waiting all day long when you have other appointments and stuff to do. Also, they didn’t charge me at first, but later on the guy charged me. I told the guy, “Do I have to pay?” He said, “No, it says right here you don’t have to pay,” but then later on my account, it shows that they took $100 out. They gave me a full out estimate and even talked to me about what the warranty probably would not cover and the other options I might have.
When they came back, there was somebody else to help since it was a heavy water tank. They were very good at explaining how the new tank works, what I should look for as well as the warranty that came with it so I was thrilled. They also asked me if I had any questions. The water heater works like a charm and I can take a hot shower now. American Home is not the first warranty I've had in this house, but they blew away the last company that I used. He wasn't able to completely fix it the first day he came but he came back and did what he said he was going to do. I'm totally happy with the service and would highly recommend AHS to others.

I have American Home Shield for five years or more on my main house and two rental properties. When I had a problem with my water heater that wasn’t keeping my water hot, I called them and their reps were very courteous. They placed the claim with one vendor but the vendor wasn’t able to come out during my days off so I called American Home Shield back. They called around and got in touch with a vendor who could accommodate me being at home and available for them to come and check out my water heater.
The contractor who came was a very nice young gentleman. He checked out my water heater and had to go down into my basement to see where the main water valve was. He waited to get an authorization and once he received the authorization from American Home Shield, he told me what was what. But American Home Shield did not cover the complete cost of the repair because it was outside of my warranty. So after the tech told me what would and wouldn't be covered, he asked me if I wanted him to proceed with the work. I told him I did, so he repaired it and told me exactly what was done. After that, my heater has been performing with no problems.

A couple of years ago, my furnace went out. I came home from a road trip and it was 2:00 in the morning. My house was freezing because my heater didn't work. AHS said they could get to us in a couple of days. I said no because I have kids. So, I called someone who came to fix it. I tried to see if American Home Shield would reimburse me the $500 it cost me because I didn't want my family to freeze. However, they gave me the finger and told me that I had to use their guys. They have their rules but I'm not going to let my family freeze because it was going to take two days for them to get to my house.
Other than the wait for the technician to get here, American Home Shield is fine. Recently, I had a plumbing issue in my kitchen. The water was coming through underneath the sink and so they came out. I get that they're busy as people have frozen pipes in winter. But I wish there was some way they could get to it quickly because it sucks when I have to wait a day or two. But they've always sent the same plumbing company because I live out in the middle of nowhere. They were great and professional and have always gotten things done.

Our hot water tank was not working. It has been acting up for a couple of weeks and it finally went kaput. I submitted a claim to AHS and it was fine doing that. American Home Shield is wonderful. We have had them for seven and half years and we've used them for garage door openers, air conditioning and plumbing. They responded quickly to my problem and all of them have been excellent. We have used the plumber they sent three times already. They have sent other ones but the one from Tishomingo was excellent since he doesn't settle for the cheapest way to go. He wants to make sure it doesn't break again and really fixes it. AHS is a lifesaver. If some people buy a home, they should definitely get the insurance. I tell that to anybody I know.

We had a leaking water heater so I had the plumber come and take a look. He suggested that it needed to be fixed and he submitted the claim to American Home Shield for me. He kept me updated through the process. Also, when he scheduled to come out, he was right on time. He made the process seamless and had very little things for me to do myself. First, he tried to repair the heater but when he came to check, he found that it was beyond repair and decided to replace it. I liked my experience with American Home Shield and I would recommend them to anybody else. They do exactly what they promise with very little dispute or contesting. I had a bad cartridge in my tub faucet and I entered the claim online fairly easily. American Home Shield called me and the rep was very professional. They told me they'd be scheduling it then the company contacted me two days later by phone. iPlumb was great. They had the part on hand and the contractor fixed it in about 15 minutes. It's been working flawlessly since then. It was the shower controller for my master bath which I use everyday so the service has certainly been helpful.
American Home Shield is good but we had a previous issue where I wasn't really happy with their solution. We had a basement unfinished and there was an exposed hot water pipe that had a small leak in it. A different plumbing company came out that instance and he pointed out six spots along the 10-foot long copper pipe where there was white residue at the bottom. Water was corroding the pipe and it was going to give way at some point. But he said because of the nature of the warranty, he was only allowed to cut out the small section that was actually leaking instead of replacing the entire length of pipe. I was disappointed with that because, clearly, that was not the way any homeowner would want to repair that particular problem. It would be easier to pull out the whole pipe and put in a new pipe that wasn't about to fail. AHS limits what's able to be fixed because of the nature of the warranty.
But I also had a leak at an exterior spigot where you hook up a hose to the front of your house and something had gone wrong with the actual external control for that. The contractor popped it off and replaced it right there on the spot. In summary, two out of three claims have been great, and AHS still did fix the other problem.

We had a $4,000 refrigerator that went out and we filed our first claim to AHS. I submitted everything online. They sent a technician out, he came in and looked, and ordered the part. He came back and three days later, he had to go in the inner part of the refrigerator. When he got in there, he found that there were some other issues and there were some other parts of the refrigerator that couldn't be replaced. It was the problem of the refrigerator that he had issues with before. He put it in for a replacement to AHS.
AHS got back to me quickly and told me that they found a couple of refrigerators, but they didn't have all the features. They offered us another model though. But I needed to go up there and see it and make sure it's going to fit into the space that we had for the refrigerator. Also, without us being able to see the fridge and pick it out, it may or not be a new one. AHS said that we could get our own with a $2,600 allowance. So we're shopping around for a new one that's acceptable for that amount of money. My wife hasn't found the one she wants. This has been going on for a month now but so far, I’m satisfied with how things are going.

Our washing machine broke. We called AHS and they said that they didn’t have anyone in the area to do that kind of repair. They told us to call a technician but they listed eight people not to call in the area. When I finally got a hold of somebody and asked them to do it, they said they wouldn’t deal with AHS because the guy said that if he had a nickel for every time, AHS didn't pay. They’ve turned off everybody in the area that works on washing machines so there was nobody for us to call. We were on our own and we didn’t know what to do. We had washes that we needed to do and I can't wait six months so, we purchased a washing machine and sent AHS the bill. My husband mailed the claim and they said that we didn't follow the instructions. We were supposed to call somebody and that person was supposed to call AHS back and get a number to do the job. They said that the claim was null and void.
My husband wrote them back and he said that he had more information, but they still said that the claim was null and void, and that we were not getting any money. I went on Facebook and there's a group called “I hate American Home Shield" When bought the house the seller gave the policy to us and now, we wish we had taken the money and not the policy because it's worthless. In addition, when we called them, the wait time was over an hour and my husband had to put the phone on speaker. Don’t deal with AHS. They're horrible people.

My heater and AC were fixed and I was charged over 400.00 dollars for things that didn't need to be replaced. A whistleblower employee of the air condition company showed me the wires, which were hanging off my unit, and the capacitors that were not wired properly. I sent in another claim for my dishwasher. I was charged another 100.00 dollars. The plumber was sent out, claimed he ordered a part, and didn't fix my dishwasher.
I called in to make a complaint and nothing was done. Instead my account was closed with American Home Shield, while waiting on a resolution. I have requested that all phone calls be pulled, but they have yet to accomplish this. Again... waiting on the resolution, my account has been closed. This company has multiple complaints in your state, as well as Texas. I am confused why authorities have not stepped in to resolve this situation. Their Facebook page has multiple strings of complaints. All support information can be found on the BBB website as well as their own Facebook page.

Our experience with AHS has been abhorrent, and there are so many failures on its part I don't even know where to start. This is just a brief version of what's transpired. We made a fridge claim on 10/30/17, and as of 1/19/18, we still have a leaking fridge. After major failures and fraud by the first dispatched contractor, they dispatched a 2nd who never made contact. After arguing for almost 2 hours, they finally agreed to send a 3rd contractor to inspect our issue. Their call staff are robotic, simply read their script, and totally devoid of any personal interaction whatsoever. After being on hold for an average of over 1.5 hours each time I call, I've been conveniently disconnected at least 5 times while waiting to talk with a supervisor. I've left messages for supervisors, yet no one has called me back. Not only have they closed our claim twice without ANY explanation or letter.
But, after much prodding, I finally figured out they've denied our claim for improper reasons under the contract. What no one seems to understand is that the symptom of the problem (rust) is not the primary issue. The cause (leaking water coming from somewhere) is the issue, yet not one person at AHS seems to understand that. Of course, in their illusory and unilateral contract, the only way to appeal the issue is per arbitration which costs thousands and thousands of dollars and months of time (or small claims which they must approve).
It has become clear to us that AHS's M.O. is to make it a practice to improperly deny claims, ignore customer communications, and make it as difficult as possible to get any information on a claim, in the hopes you'll go away. I haven't been this dissatisfied and frustrated with a company and its customer services practices ever. We certainly will never obtain another AHS warranty, and will be notifying all our friends, colleagues, acquaintances and others about this horrible experience.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We have been trying for nearly a year to get an ice maker repaired. First they sent a contractor who couldn't fix it. Then they sent GE who said they will not work on it because someone opened it up. Then they sent another contractor who said they couldn't fix it and would tell AHS to send someone else. Instead, AHS closed the ticket as completed. So we started all over and went through the same cycle two more times. We have now had 10 visits with no resolution to the problem. Each time we have to get them to restart the ticket it's an hour on hold. Each time a contractor came, we had to take time off work.
It doesn't seem possible that any company could be this incompetent by accident, so it appears that they have a deliberate strategy to wear you down in the hope that you'll give up and pay to have things fixed outside the warranty. Avoid at all costs.

I had them scheduled to come out a few times but they missed a few appointments and it became a mess. After American Home Shield couldn’t get in touch with the contractor, AHS finally canceled that contractor and sent out a second contractor who repaired the problem on the first visit. Now that it is repaired, everything’s fine. I wish we had a little bit more control over the contractors that could be selected but overall with Home Shield, our experience has been positive. I had a pipe leak that went to my water heater and that caused some corrosion. The water heater needed to be replaced but American Home Shield said that the cost of replacing the water heater and the pipe were not covered because it was secondary damage. The rep was pleasant enough but what she was saying felt like double-talk. She kept on saying if the water heater had gone out because of normal wear and tear, they would have replaced it. They also would have replaced the pipe had it just been the pipe. But the pipe leak caused the problem with the water heater therefore neither of them was covered. It sounded like circular logic to me and it made no sense to me so I was not happy with this last claim at all.
On the other hand, I’m very happy with the provider Lone Star Water Services. They were very prompt and they explained everything. The water heater was in my attic and I wasn’t able to go up to even see what was going on but they made nice pictures and showed me everything. It was a little telling that they were quick when you give them money but it took a long time for a claim. I also had good interaction with the contractors but they had not paid much attention to the leaky faucets which cropped up overtime. I've owned multiple homes at the same time. I understand that when it comes to water, it was not always easy to anticipate what might have. They did a good job but they still have to come back for a few trips in between ordering parts. I appreciate that but I like to get things done quickly when it’s possible.
However, their case management had been a source of confusion. I dealt with things online after the long wait and they were pretty speedy in getting back with me. The microwave went out and I submitted the claim online but then I called as I did not want the person that was assigned to me. I’ve had a bad experience with that company and so I did not want them. Apparently, when you go on the computer, whoever is next to come up is automatic, and I kept getting the same person as the next person. Their reps told me I needed to cancel the prior transaction. Once I did that, they set it up, found the next person for me, and asked me if there was anybody in particular that I wanted. Since I didn’t know all the contractors yet, so I asked them to pick somebody other than the company that I had a bad experience with. They were very accommodating and they gave me another company, and that one was wonderful.
When the new contractor came out, he knew something was wrong with the appliance and that there was no way to repair it and it needed to be replaced. AHS sent a questionnaire to ask the size, the depth, and the particulars of the microwave. They gave me a choice of several different types of appliances. I could pick one from the list that they had or to opt out and get the money and pick my own. I just picked the one from their list. Then I thought they were just delivering it, but they delivered and put it up. When I came home, it was already there so it came out to my benefits.
AHS fixed the problem. They also gave an opportunity to pay for the services prior to coming. I like to pay online and get down with it as sometimes I don’t always have cash. AHS is something that everybody should have. It's a great insurance as people would never know about appliances, how old it is, or when it's going to come due. I recommended my friend to American Home Shield but she had to wait almost two hours to speak to somebody on her phone and I felt bad because I had recommended her to Home Shield. Customers pay every month for their service so their customer service should be better when calling in initially to make a claim and having somebody come out. You could do it on the computer but sometimes you want to speak to a live person and in that respect, they need to hire more people to work on their end so that they can accommodate us as customers and make wait times shorter.
I usually have to wait for a long time too but I got smart. I was able to find a different number where I was able to speak to somebody with all the existing claims. That part was quicker even for a new claim and I try to beat the system a little bit with that. My garage door was making a really loud noise so contractors had to come out. However, they were reporting back to American Home Shield that the machine was functioning when it wasn’t. I got transferred to another company and the gentleman just came today and replaced something on the outside.
American Home Shield’s motto is very confusing and I ended up having a large portion of the cost out of pocket. It was kind of dishonest. It was really much more like insurance. They were not really going to replace the device. I might get an estimate of $4,800 and American Home Shield will pay the $800, so I’m out $4,000. I understand that for them to stay in business, they can’t be paying out that much money all the time. But at the same time, they should change their advertising to be more truthful. I ended up taking the cash in lieu of work. It wasn’t even close to having it replaced. I’m also very dissatisfied with how American Home Shield handles phone calls. It takes hours and hours to get through to anybody. They also doubled my price. I had a property and it was a 75, less than the property that I had in Wisconsin.
I have a number of properties that had been with them before. But this one, they almost doubled. They said that was because I had so many claims and that at the end of a year’s period of time, it would be reduced because they would have recapped some of their cost or expenses. Then when that timeframe came, I was told that person should never have said that and the price is not going to be reduced so I’m planning on removing myself from that contract and another property that I have. On the other hand, I’ve been satisfied with the contractors they sent for the most part.
Hello, Pam. Although the cash out option can be valuable, it is often lower than a retail amount. I apologize if that became an issue in getting your work order resolved. The hold times have been an issue that we are working to have resolved and have seen some recent improvements. We appreciate your patronage over the years and we will have a Social Media Specialist contact you directly.

AHS is a great company and we’ve been using them for years. When the motor to the pool stopped working, I called them and they were nice people. They recommended somebody to come out and take a look at it. The contractor took care of the motor problem and was very good.

We were having problems with the heater. I called American Home Shield and they helped me by sending someone to come out. My interaction with the reps over the phone was very good. The contractor came and we told them what was wrong, and they got right on it. They got the parts and they did an excellent job of fixing it, and since the repair, it has been wonderful. Anybody that is looking for safety around their home needs to be a part of American Home Shield.

AHS is a good company and people should use them. Once, I had an issue with the claim I submitted for my coil. They addressed and rectified it. They worked with me and worked around my schedule. They sent the contractors twice, who were then able to identify the right problem, which was the igniter not being strong enough for the unit. Then, the most recent claim I submitted was for my furnace. They sent out great contractors who then replaced two igniters in it. Everything’s fine and I’m satisfied. I filed the claim online, which was easy. Their over-the-phone service, however, has a very long wait time, which is over 30 minutes. Nevertheless, I'd tell a friend to buy American Home Shield.

My oven would not turn on and so I submitted the claim on the phone. The first guy who came could not fix it because he could not find the number, and so he left. American Home Shield sent someone else, and he found the number at the bottom of the oven. They were both nice. Since the repair, the performance of the oven has been working wonderfully, and I’ve used it more than I did before. I am very pleased with American Home Shield and I have already told someone about it.

My experience with American Home Shield hasn’t been the best. I understand there are some things that their warranty is not going to cover, like going on the roof and all that, but there were other avenues that they could’ve done in order to fix the issue, like pulling the toilet or something like that. It was just my vent that was clogged. I’m never going to purchase this again because I’m going to have to end up paying someone to make the repair regardless. I paid $75 for people to come over for the service call and they would say that in the fine details it's not covered so it’s pointless. I called to submit the claim, and getting someone to come out has never been an issue.
However they didn’t put much time into it and then they got contractors that come out that just want to make some money. The guy came over and quoted me for $400. I called someone else and I was able to get it even cheaper. I’m not going to pay a $75 fee when they're not even going to do anything. They should provide better information in regards to the actual warranty that they provide. They don’t really provide much besides the basic-- if someone has a fridge and it’s broken, will they replace the fridge of equal value?
Hello, David. I apologize that you have had to pay for repairs that were not covered by the warranty. Unfortunately, it is often times impossible for us to know what will be the coverage decision until a technician comes out to diagnosis. To answer the coverage question regarding replacement, AHS will replace if we cannot repair and we do replace like for like. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

I have been paying my home warranty premiums every month, as agreed. In October of 2017 I had a sewer backup that was caused by my septic system, I tried to call AHS, over an hour of hold time every time I called. I finally reported it on their website, they drag around for about a week and then stated they could not find anyone to work on septic systems in my area but they charged me $100 anyway. I had to find someone to fix it and pay them myself. They agreed to use my $100 for my next problem. In January 2018 my heat pump quit working so I filed a report on their website, they charged me another $100 and sent a guy out, he said that I needed 5 or 6 pounds of freon, they called and said they would only pay $10 a pound and I would have to pay the other $35 a pound. They are the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

I joined American Home Shield to get service cover for my 4 houses. It has been unpleasant experience. Lately, I opened a claim in regard to a Stoppage in my house. AHS assigned DRAIN & PLUMBING SERVICES INC to help. They sent a technician to my house. He came and said since the cleanout pipe is inside the house and not outside - this will not be cover by AHS. He left without doing any work, however his company called me and gave a quote of $400 for the first hour and $200 for each hour after that. I felt they are overcharging me. So I called a local plumber and agreed to do the job for $170. In addition, AHS still want to charge me $75 for the technician visit to tell me it is not covered. I am thinking to drop them.
Updated on 03/28/2018: I think AHS needs to be selective with the companies providing services. This is the second time I have issue with plumbing and AHS connected me with the same service company. In summary, the company indicated nothing is covered under the warranty and ended paying $475 to change a Faucet in the bathroom. Very disappointed, I have 4 houses with AHS, I am thinking to part away from them.

Long time customer of AHS, lots of monthly payments, only to be continually rewarded with incompetent vendors, crazy long wait times on the phone, really why isn't email an option. We've had the same issue with a very high-end GE Monogram built in fridge for over a year. First crappy, idiot vendor said it was the control panel, oops, after months to get that replaced, no that wasn't it. Then it was the door skin, more months for approval and ordering, oops again, that wasn't it. Then of course the incompetents went out of business. I call again, this time have to wait on hold 1 hour 40 minutes, WTF? They take the claim and I get confirmation of assignment to a vendor. Well big surprise, they don't ever call.
After a week of nothing, I call AHS again, (can't believe there isn't an email for this), and wait on hold another hour just to tell them their ** vendor didn't call. They get him on the line, I think woke him up. He promises to call the next days to let me know when he'll be out. He doesn't. I call him, wake him up again, he puts the phone down and while he's shuffling papers I look him up on Yelp...EVERY single review is 1 star out of 5, comments saying to stay away. WTF? Why is this so hard? I'm now on hold AGAIN with AHS, 30 minutes in, to tell them this **, incompetent loser is not coming into my house and that they need to find a decent solution, I'm not that picky, how about an average of 3 out of 5 stars, I can work with that. I'd just cancel my damn policy if I hadn't already been bilked out of so much money already. AHS is a scam, they should be investigated. Look at all the one star reviews on this site.

I've been with American Home Shield for a while and their service is fine. My air-conditioning unit went out on me and one man came and fixed it. I also had a sink problem and they ended up replacing the nozzle and the faucet in the kitchen. They were professional, very courteous and got the job done. I was very much pleased with them.
The only problem I have is that when you call in you're put on hold so long. I've waited so long that I have an appointment I had to go to, so I had to try to call back. It really took me between two and three weeks of calling and being held on the phone for hours, and nobody came to the phone. That's with American Home Shield, that's not with the service provider. I was sent to an automated system two times but I didn’t trust that because I like to try to get the same people that came before. I had a problem in the past with a few people that I didn't want back here. Nonetheless, AHS is a great company and I'm determined to keep them until I die or Jesus comes.

I've had American Home Shield since 2016 and I've been happy with it. Everybody has been willing to work with me, always very cordial and polite. I live in Northern Colorado and the people that they’ve sent out from that part of the world have always contacted me within the 24-hour period and sometimes even sooner via email. The most recent claim I had was for my dryer. It built up a lot of lint inside for many years and it started making funny noises. They then sent out contractors who put a new fan belt in. They had to come twice, but every time they’ve come out, they’ve done an exceptional job.
A switch also once blew up and they sent out a contractor for it ad we had a good experience. I submitted a claim online once and now they keep on telling me that I still owe them $100 and I still had to call them for that. I didn’t want to take that chance again so I just call and do it over the phone. It seems to be a little less confusing for that.
I’ve already recommended AHS to several people. If you have an issue with something, especially for people who have older appliances or an older home, AHS is worth the money. It basically pays for itself over time if you have a problem with something. A friend also used AHS several times and never had a problem. So we had a good service down on this.

I filed an online claim with them for our washer that would not turn on. The technician they sent out was professional. He came in and read the code that it was drawn in. He found out that something was in the quad pipe, so he cleared that and cleared the codes. I was impressed. He knew exactly what was going to go on and what the code was right off the bat. The washer worked fine after the service. But I wish the service was a bit faster. I have five people at my house, so when the washer was down for five days, the laundry built up.

I've used American Home Shield for my rental house and the property manager always tells me how difficult it is to get to them. They have very long wait times. You could spend 35 or 40 minutes holding. The problem with these kinds of outfits is they look for reasons not to honor your request. They’ll find some reason why it's not. One time when I used American Home Shield, I had to sort of battle with them to get them to replace the item that was covered. In any event, I'm not happy with American Home Shield, but I don’t dare not have it. They're not going to give you anything that you don’t push and shove a little bit to get because they're a for-profit organization. They're not going to bend over backwards to come in and fix your water heater. They're going to tell you that your water heater is old and needed to be replaced. They’ll give you what they think is worth to replace that water heater. That's the way these outfits work.

It took him time to find the right circuit and he was here for 45 minutes. Then, he put the microwave back in the cabinet. The lightbulb went out as well and he looked at that, too. He didn't have one in stock so he ordered it. He then called and scheduled an appointment and came back a week later to put the new lightbulb in. We watched how he did it and asked questions since it was not an open-door, reach-in kind of thing. He told us that it wasn't hard to change it if we wanted to do it ourselves. Now, the unit is working perfectly.

American Home Shield assigned the person to come, but he didn’t show up and he told me he would come the next week. Then he was late again, and I called American Home Shield to see if I could get someone else, and they said no. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and he was supposed to call me back within 24 to 28 hours, and he didn’t. I can’t go online because sometimes, I can’t put in what I need to say and it won’t let me do what I need to do. I’m not computer-savvy and I have to speak to someone. I’ve been really displeased with the amount of time I always have to wait on hold. When the electrician came, he simply had five days to do the work. He was here last Saturday, and he said between now and Saturday, he would be back. That’s seven more days I have to wait and he has got 24 hours left since then.
This situation happens often. The wait time is too long, and then, when I tell them I don’t want a particular vendor, they say I can’t get anybody else. If I’ve had a bad experience with a vendor, it’s my right to tell American Home Shield, and I should also be able to get a person back if I used them and I was pleased. Why do I have to take somebody else just because I’m in a 71109 zip code? Shreveport is a small town, so regardless of the zip code, if you drive 30 minutes, you’re in a different town. I’ve got two or three other companies that do the same thing that American Home Shield does. Right now, I’m pretty upset and I’m really not sure what I’m going to do. AHS, however, charged me $125 for it despite my contract stating that a service call would only cost $75. They didn't explain why it happened and even tried to tell me I've changed my contract when I haven't done anything differently. I got them since my son told me that he was happy with them and I too was happy with them until that point. If I'm going to pay $125 service call, why should I have a monthly fee for the insurance when I could pay the electrician outright? Because of that, I've cancelled their services. My electrical outlet started burning and I called American Home Shield but the company that they referred to me did not get back to me. I waited for 36 hours and finally called my own electrician and just turned over the problem to them. When I complained to American Home Shield about this, the woman I spoke with said that it may not have been something that they covered. Tell me immediately what to do and don’t tell me someone is going to come when they never will. She then said that she will call the company for me but that took too long. It was about four days. I was concerned as this might burn up my house because of an electrical fire.
Another time, American Home Shield replaced my AC unit but I had a disaster of a time because the company they kept using was awful as they could not repair the unit even after many tries. It was winter and I was freezing and I couldn’t get anyone over because it was Christmas. I had to pack my bags and my cat and go stay with someone. One time my ice maker wasn’t working and AHS gave me the number of the plumbers who would come. Then I called them and we set up an appointment. The plumber that came was the owner of the company and he was very good and was able to fix the ice machine. AHS is an insurance policy and sometimes when I don’t use it I feel like I’m throwing away money. But it’s $75 when someone comes and it might be much more without AHS. AHS is about 500 dollars a year and it’s worth it if you need it.

It would be great if they could send an email to verify the conversation saying they were going to come and also mention the things they would be fixing. And that way, there will be no doubt with what was said and if it wasn't said, the email could be returned saying they didn't record it properly.
The contractors were very good. But the last one caused our kitchen to flood. He had declared that our refrigerator wasn't working and it had a waterline to the ice maker and water. And it somehow became loose after he did that. The water was coming out and it was going into the next bedroom behind it. And we didn't know for quite some time that the bedroom carpeting was soaked. Recently, American Home Shield had sent out All Brands to fix my refrigerator. I had to have some Freon and sealant and a valve of some kind. I started out with this appointment last week and they were coming on Friday. On Friday, I called because it said reschedule and I kept getting put to the "Leave a message and we'll get back to you," which never happened so I called AHS and they have the same thing. I talked to them on Monday and whoever was supposed to do it had somebody died in his family so they rescheduled me for Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the guy that was coming on Tuesday had his truck quit at 95 and 210. It was a comedy of errors that none of us, if anybody, have any control over. In the end, the gentleman that owns the company came at 5:00. And the thing is, they've had people with flu too, which had been going around. In fact, the guy who did it had had the flu and that was his first week back. The doctor said he could come back since he wasn't contagious.
AHS had also sent out people to fix my disposal. I've had them before and the technician was very nice. He told me that I needed to buy an Allen wrench, so I could help myself which I thought was really nice. They also checked out the commode that they've looked at twice and they kept saying it was fine but it was not. I also had a claim for my air conditioner a couple of years ago. I didn't totally agree with them on that. The company that was there said I needed to have stuff done that I didn't need to. It was the summer and I called somebody I knew and got a new unit. But overall, American Home Shield is good. For me, the warranty works because of the fact that it's just me. I don't know how to fix anything and I don't mind paying $75 to have somebody.

They have the automated system. And apparently, we don’t have any really odd problems that have come up and all of them have been on the automated system. So I just click through and I’ve never had to be transferred to a person.
When I put a claim with American Home Shield,l I get an email from them within 24 hours telling me about the person who has been assigned to come out and take a look, the phone number, and that they will be contacting me within X number of hours. And depending on what service is requested, the time varies. When I had a problem with the heater specifically, I got a call ten minutes after I got the email. And I scheduled the service. Our basement wasn’t heating and I usually call in or go online to file a claim to American Home Shield. But I find it much more efficient to do it online than to call in. They had me on hold for an hour before. And sometimes it will take three days to get people to out. We filed a claim before for one of my rental properties and we ended up buying a new unit as it took a long time to get the reimbursement payment from AHS. Their representatives were okay though and the contractors being sent out by AHS gets the job done for the most part.
But when we had a problem with one of our pipes and they cut a hole in our wall and cut out the sheetrock, nobody ever came back to fix it until we had to keep calling. Then, when they came back to fix it, they put another piece of sheetrock up and they plug it and they just left it. But as far as sanding or painting it, I had to do all that myself when it should have been repaired timely. And I didn’t know that prior to signing up with American Home Shield because I probably would have made a different decision.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have your items repaired as well as the drywall that was repaired to a rough finish. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Our garage door opener wasn’t opening and closing properly. The contractor American Home Shield sent said it was a broken spring. They fixed it and it was wonderful. But we still have an ongoing problem with the refrigerator. The contractor did a lot and some of it was corrected. There's water on the floor many times when I opened the freezer because it's a bottom freezer and it still happens so we cleared it out the best we can since I don't want to pay another $75. Another issue was that the ice cube part had broken and he replaced it. The contractors that came out were very good and professional. They seemed to know what they were doing although this refrigerator is still an issue.
Then there was one time that they had to place the water heater but then they added on a large charge for something. I never knew whether it’s the policy of American Home Shield or the policy of the company that came out. I did a little research on it and it should not have happened. I called the very same company and didn’t say I had a home warranty. The company gave me a whole different price and I thought that was terrible. The company said that there was nothing that could be done about it. That was the way it was.
I was over a barrel because it was under what I would have paid if I would not have used the home warranty as they charged me to retrofit something for hooking it up. That part came out of my pocket and it was several hundred dollars. I confronted the company about it and they said that it's too bad and asked if I wanted them to come or not. When I called the company again and said I needed this done, there was no charge for that. But then I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I’m happy with them. It’s definitely worth it to get a home warranty. I’m a realtor so I say to my customers why they need it.

Every once in a while, the ice maker freezes up and this has been an ongoing issue since I got our refrigerator. That part of it is a lemon but the problems haven't been close enough for Sears to admit it. But everything went very easy when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield through a representative. I got the same contractor who had come before and he's been great. The unit has been working fine and I've been very satisfied with everything. I've recommended American Home Shield to other people because of the service. They cover everything, too.

I submitted my most recent claim, a backed up drain system in plumbing which had to be just snaked, online and it was easy. I also did it online during the last couple of times I have used American Home Shield. The contractor was competent. He got right to it and fixed it pretty quickly so everything is fine. The only thing is, it’s getting more and more expensive. The price is going up fairly regularly from when we started it. Back then, the initial fee was $25. Now, it’s up to $75 which seems to me to be a fairly steep increase over that period of time. But when you need it, you need it just like any other insurance policy.

I bought my house in March and have been with American Home Shield for 10 months. Sometime in the second week of December, I had a problem with my bathroom shower not turning on. I did a claim online and it was super easy. A contractor contacted me within 24 hours and they were able to fix the issue. Now that it's working, everything is the way it was. I would recommend them.

I always had good experiences with American Home Shield. They always answered the phone every time I called them. My microwave had quit working and they replaced it. I had a good rapport with the rep. She's very workable and she made sure I had everything I wanted. I also had a good relationship with the contractor. He did what he needed to do and he was very courteous.

I had issues with both the pool plumbing and our ductwork in the heating system. I went to AHS's website to submit the claims and it was very easy doing it. The website is fairly user-friendly. They came out and did a diagnosis on the heating and cooling system. The house is 30 years old and there were areas that are inconsistent. They confirmed that we didn't have any airflow obstructions or other kinds of obvious issues. The only solution that we collectively identified was re-ducting the house, which is an option AHS wouldn't cover. That was really helpful because I didn't know if I had a dead pass of blocking airflow, or the system is obsolete. I appreciate that somebody came out and helped me to diagnose what was going on and what my options were. Repairs were done and the performance has been good since.
They also diagnosed the pool and gave me options. Although there were no repairs done in the pool, I'm now understanding what's going on with the system and what my options are for addressing issues in the future. Also, I was introduced to my everyday maintenance vendor through AHS and I was so pleased with the service provided. We've been repeat customers for quite a while now and we've always seen value in the coverage that AHS provides. It is a practical way to ensure against system failures in our home and it's a good value for the cost. We've been satisfied with the customer service and the services to keep us coming back.

Our water heater has broken down, but AHS does not seem to care to fix it. It has now been over a month and we live without hot water. AHS has deemed that our water heater needs to be replaced, but they won't pay for it completely because there is some piping that was installed not to code. However, that was done by the contractors sent from AHS to fix an issues with water regulation in 2010. Now whenever we try to discuss this issue with AHS, their representatives hang-up on the call and refuse to deal with the issue. At this point we are at a loss and don't know how to get in touch with AHS to resolve this. We do need a new Water Heater and it is quite cold without it.

AHS was very responsive to my initial review. The representative reviewed my case and reached out to listen to my frustrations and concerns. It does seem like AHS is genuinely concerned about the wait times for their call centers and the issues their customers experience with their dispatching system. I also believe they are actively addressing those issues.
The representative was also able to shed some light on how their service request and dispatching services work. The transparency is much appreciated because it helps explain what was happening to my service requests and why I was unable to resolve my plumbing issue for months. It doesn't answer all my questions or how I slipped through the cracks for so long, but, again, they seem to be trying to improve their services.
Most importantly, my plumbing issue was hastily resolved. Additionally, I was refunded for the service requests where I experienced so much difficulty.
I bumped my star rating from 1 to 3 given how helpful AHS was after my review. AHS still has some issues it needs to resolve. However, I do feel they are actively working to make their service better for their customers.

I live in a densely populated area (Jersey City, NJ, right across the Hudson from NYC) and they only work with one plumbing company in my zip code... The plumbing company has some of the worst reviews of all time. In order to not use that plumbing company, I need to call to create the service request. It is painful saying it, but I have spent at least 15 hours on hold. Just on hold... Every time I call, it is AT LEAST an hour wait... Additionally, in order to create the service request, I have to list 10 - 15 zip codes so the representative can look up other zip codes in their system to find other companies they work with.
I could list 10 or 15 more issues I have had but I cannot give this company any more of my time. In short, It took 3 months to fix a leak. No managers would call me back. Their system couldn't find the plumber we were already using. I even had the plumber in my driveway and they couldn't authorize it in time so he had to leave. This is the absolute worst company I have ever had to deal with. DO NOT USE THEM.

I paid for American Home Shield coverage when I purchased my home roughly six months ago. I recently had a plumber in my home for an unrelated incident when I mentioned that my hot water heater is inconsistent in providing hot water, and he pointed out that my 25 year old unit is corroded at the bottom and near failure. Rather than allow my finished basement to flood from a failed tank and cause major damage, I paid my $75 service call fee to have an AHS representative come out to assess the situation. The plumber who arrived agreed that the unit should definitely be replaced (and wrote it in his report back to the company), despite the fact that it has not completely failed. When he left he told me that AHS would make the final determination and I should expect a call within 24 hours.
After 5 days of waiting I finally called the company myself and waited an hour on hold to speak with a representative. When she finally answered and I explained that I was waiting for a callback regarding how the company planned to resolve my situation, she told me that there wasn't going to be a call because the company wouldn't be addressing it (although she agreed that the plumber had recommended replacement). That since the unit hadn't failed AHS wouldn't be doing anything about it. She went on to explain the AHS also wouldn't cover the damages when the tank does fail.
Rather shocked at her attitude I asked if it is the policy of the company to make me wait for a flood to ruin my basement and cost me thousands of dollars, after which they only plan to cover the cost of a new tank. Her answer was, "Yeah... pretty much". Since I now knew I had their most stellar customer service rep on the line, I asked if the company intends to lose each customer one at a time once they receive this treatment, to which she (intelligently) declined to answer.
I asked for a callback from her supervisor since (of course) there wasn't one working today, but I don't have high hopes. I WOULD NOT recommend American Home Shield to anyone. They will gladly take your enrollment money and $75 service call fee, but if you expect to get any customer appreciation or ACTUAL VALUE back from the company you will be highly disappointed.

I called AHS to send a contractor to come out and fix my ice maker in December. They charged me the $75 fee to the credit card over the phone. The contractor came out and fixed the ice maker. At the end of the month I got another $75 charge. I considered this a double charge since the contractor didn't come out again. I tried calling the billing section of AHS and was on hold for over 20 minutes four times until I finally got someone. I pointed out that I could see both charges on my account dashboard but they only saw one. My credit card was charged twice. AHS wanted me to send them a copy of my bill with the charges by fax. I asked if they could receive it by email since I don't have fax capability and they said no.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there were no supervisors available but I could request a callback from one. That callback never happened. I called the contractor The Appliance Store in Santa Barbara and left a message... no response. I finally called my credit card company and asked them to dispute the extra charge. There is now a charge on my account dashboard for $75. It seems ridiculous that I would have to get my credit card company involved in a payment dispute with AHS. Their chat doesn't work on their web page and the phone number leaves you on hold for a long time. AHS needs to improve its customer service in the billing area.
I would be glad to speak with you and correct the additional service fee that you have been charged.
Thank you,

We purchased a 1 year agreement with AHS back in October 2018, paid in full on good faith. On 1/2/2018 we woke up to our furnace not working properly. That day was expected to be 12°. We called AHS to file claim and get furnace repaired. After waiting on hold for over an hour, we told them everything and also made them aware we have 3 small children in the home and that the temp in the home was 55°. They informed us that they will send a company of their choice out and that company would notify us within 48 hours. Company came out, told us we need a new control board and it would take a few days to get it in. So after waiting until Jan. 5, they come install new part. The technician had to call to get directions on how to install control board. I was alarmed but still patient. After about 15 minutes, tech tells me furnace is still not working so you need a full replacement.
I immediately call AHS to ask them how could they send such a shady company to my home. After waiting on hold for 76 MINUTES they tell me that they trust the company and that I will need to pay the company $2000 out of my own pocket for the full furnace replacement. At this point, I realize I'm not dealing with a company that really cares for their customers. A family of five has been without heat for over a week!
It’s now Jan. 15 (3 weeks no heat) and the shady company will not even call me back after I told them I cannot afford $2000. I have had to place numerous phone calls to AHS countless hold times without any care to human regard at all! I asked for a second opinion option that I read in my contract, which they agreed to send another contractor out. THANK GOD! They came out today Jan.17, upon inspection of control board they found it was miswired and also not plugged in all the way around!!! To say the least I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed with the company I trusted to warranty my home in case of emergency.
3 weeks without heat in the dead of winter doesn’t even qualify as an emergency to them, nothing was urgent, nothing expedited, I couldn’t even speak to a supervisor or get a direct number to call someone. I plan on filling a complain on both AHS and Stout Heating and cooling. I’m happy that we are warm now but also very scared of anything else going wrong.
I understand your frustration with the hold times you endured as well as the delay in service to repair your furnace. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that you experienced.

One of my experiences was a plumbing issue with the hot water not going to one of the showers. My representative that was on my property said their technician came out and he immediately knew what the issue was. In 30 minutes it was taken care of. Another thing, they're really good as far as putting a request online. I got a callback within the next couple of hours trying to schedule an appointment. It was good customer service. Overall, American Home Shield is a good company. I have recommended them to a few friends.

Long time customer who will be finding another home insurance provider. I travel and felt at ease should anything ever happen when I'm out of town. If there is ever an issue which there has been, my wife would call it in to be fixed. Our water heater went out so I submitted a claim through AHS. It was assigned and a person came out on Friday 1/5/18. It took over 7 business days until the tank was replaced along with an additional $425 out of pocket expense. During that time I had contacted AHS and spoke to a manager. Nice guy got what I was ticked about. Provided me a $75 credit for my service fee.
Luckily my travels were rescheduled as I was at the house when the vendor replaced the tank today 1/16/18. Being somewhat frustrated with the time it took It was done. Went to the store to come back to a garage filled with natural gas fumes. Scared the living crap out of me! I have a wife and two kids inside the house with no idea what was taking place in the garage. What the hell would have happen if I would not have been in town and caught the gas leak and turned it off. Can you imagine? Thank God he is looking over us.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that you experienced to have your water heater replaced and the gas leak that you discovered. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I've had American Home Shield for seven months now and I would definitely encourage people to consider having it particularly if they're buying a home. It gives you a peace of mind that you might not have otherwise. I submit my claims online and over the phone and there wasn't a big wait time on getting them to respond back. It wasn't immediate, but it wasn't too bad. With the most recent claim I had for the heat pump, the contractor they sent was very dedicated and professional. They arrived right on time and it was obvious that they took pride in what they did and wanted to do a good job. The guy who kept going inside and outside wore little booties so that he didn't get any dirt in the house.
I also appreciated that they tried to make sure that they understood what the problem was. They fixed the unit at first but they didn't determine why it blew up. Then, shortly after that, it blew up again. When they came back out, they were determined to figure out what happened. They then found out that a major part in the outside unit was shot. Basically, every time it came on it would blow the fuse. They told me that replacing that part was a significant part of putting another unit in and the unit was already old enough. It wasn't worth doing since everything else was having problems as well and it would cost more to fix it and try to keep it running than it was to go ahead and put a different unit in. The quality of the contractor was fabulous, and they have very nice attention to detail. I'm happy with American Home Shield.

I had a problem with the heat and it was getting cold. For some reason, it wouldn't function sometimes. I placed a call and within a day, someone was out here. The AHS claims rep took information and then they told me that they would check someone in my area who would, in turn, call me and set up the appointment. The contractor they sent came when they said they would come. He went up to my attic and assessed the problem. He determined that my thermostats were dated, but there wasn't anything that he could address because they weren't part of the problem. I ended up getting some new thermostats which was fine. I had a good conversation with the guy and it was a good experience. Our heater was fixed and it's working great. I've been around for a while with AHS and every encounter that I've had has been a good one.

After Thanksgiving, our heater and the blower in the hot tub broke. We called American Home Shield and they sent out a contractor from Aquatech. He has been here several times and he kept on telling us that the issue is fixed but it's never right. One time, I even had to pay him an extra $150 for a button that wasn't totally covered by AHS. Then, the last two times that he'd been here, he replaced the control panel. My husband went ahead and tried to turn the unit on and it sparked. It was dangerous and it couldn't be kept like that so we talked to them. They were nice and seemed like they knew what they were doing but we're now at a point where they tell us that they don't know how to fix the issue. Also, after testing, they keep telling me they feel the pressure that they have to get 5 stars. However, we can't give them that since they haven't solved the issue in two months. It was very frustrating. They tell us that they're coming out but they never show up.
They were supposed to call AHS and AHS was supposed to call us and get somebody out who knows how to solve the issue but they haven't reached out to us yet. It's been a struggle since the weather has been freezing. Then, every single time AHS thinks it's all fixed but we tell them it's not. But AHS has a really good policy and is worth it. If you have good appliances in your home, then it's a really good service. However, I worry that they may be going to the lowball.

But they left it that way and told me someone was coming to repair that even though that wasn’t their call. I made another call to American Home Shield because there was another issue going on with my account. I did a prepay for this service and I thought everything was taken care of. But apparently, they didn't do the prepay and I was just informed that my account can possibly be cancelled. I'm very upset about that. I sent that money but right now, it doesn’t even matter because the sink is still not repaired. My experience with American Home Shield was good but the only thing that I hate about them is the wait time on the telephone. It was never less than 30 minutes and sometimes much more. That was really the peeve because people really do not have time to sit and wait for that long just to talk to somebody to get some information. The one that was outstanding was I have a Maytag Neptune washing machine whose gasket was in need of replacement. Apparently, the model that I have has the gasket that is no longer available or at least the company was not able to find it. They offered me a replacement, but the replacement that they were offering me was not comparable to what I have. I'm being offered GE products, which aren’t local, and GE is not what I want in a washing machine. I'm being offered a specific amount of money as a replacement. Once I go and buy what it is I want, then I can ask for that amount of money that they are willing to pay.
I am a little upset about that because I expect that if I have something then you will at least make an effort to replace it with what I have. I submitted the claim a month and a half ago. It got to the point that I could not close the door. Before that, it got very difficult and I had to slam the door. The reps were wonderful and fantastic. They tried to explain to me why there was such a long wait. It was ridiculous and they should have better customer service. But as far as the people are concerned, they did an excellent job. The serviceman was also wonderful and great. I would tell my friends that there are other companies and they could do some comparison. I was disappointed about the replacement of the machine. I thought that it would be apple to apple.
I'm disappointed as well about the telephone thing and anybody that I told about it, I would warn. But as far as my experience with working with the serviceman, working with the people on the phone, them coming out when they said they would and doing what they said they would do, I'm very satisfied. I am, however, considering changing companies because I'm coming up on renewal in April. I don’t know if I'm going to renew with them or I'll go with another company. I'm looking around.
