It's a very long and tedious process when submitting a claim with American Home Shield. There’s a lot of repetition for no purpose at all. It's like going through seven different steps to make sure that you get to speak to somebody. It’s fine to have everything automated and send you to the website but some of us older people have neither the time nor the ability to go through this process. We must speak to somebody with real life. The wait is extremely long. I have to wait two hours to be told that our business is very important to them but there was a hang-up. Most of the time, this happens.

The contractors act the way they do because they get minimal reimbursement from American Home Shield. But that should not be the case. If they do not want to do it, they should not be part of the group. I have had instances where I was supposed to be called in 24 hours later, which was understandable. But then, I had to call two to three times after the 24-hour period to see what was what, and then I left a message but they never got back to me. Some lady answering has no idea what the problem is even if I tell her it is American Home Shield. And then the answer is, "Let me call you back." I would rather wait for them but they know what they're doing.

When we called the order in, there were two stoppages in the same apartment. We told American Home Shield one thing and whoever was on the other side wrote a different thing. The contractor from All Clear showed up but said it was not in the order. Now Patriot Mechanical is supposedly coming today. I called in the morning, left a message to confirm with the company and have not gotten any response yet whether they got the message or not. I understand that there are a lot of things to do, but when the contractor is sent for a certain period of time, we would like to get service that we're paying for. There has to be better communication.

Having a home warranty is very valuable to one’s home as things can break. American Home Shield did the door locks re-key and the dryer. Their claims representative was professional when I called to file the claim. Both of the contractors sent were very good. He fixed the dryer and the lady re-keyed the locks. It took them an hour and a half to do it. Everything went fine and it was an excellent experience.

My air conditioner needed some maintenance replacement. I had it serviced last July and they told me it needed two items that were covered by my insurance. He did not write down the name where I can read it so I never got around to calling my insurance. Then in January, they came in for the second service, this time, with the heater. I asked him to tell me what he had written there and they told me. Then I had American Home Shield come out and replace whatever it was that needed to be replaced. I usually submit my claims online because I just cannot stand voicemail and I avoid it whenever I can. If there’s an online option, I go for the online. If the organization offers to contact with people and you go to a lot of prompts, I'm not really interested in going that route. The contractors AHS send are sometimes good but sometimes, they’re not. The one they sent recently was quite good.

Sometimes, the contractors are very much in a hurry. They don’t work for me and most of them make that very clear in their attitude. The money is between me and AHS but as far as the assignment, and the work, and who they report to, they’re reporting to me. That was made very clear early on in the contract. After the repair, it was reported that there are some components in the air conditioner that periodically get lower. They have to be replaced and there’s one product that you only pay $10 a pound for.

Also, AHS doesn’t really have anything in their system designed to handle emergency work. I had a water faucet that actually broke outside and the only way to address it was to completely turn off my water system, and this was on a Sunday morning. I was able to locate emergency service to come out and do it. But that’s not something that AHS covers so I paid $350 out of my pocket for that service. In the case of the last contractor they sent, it took five days to get service for the issue. Normally, in the past, the service people have responded in the next day.

I didn’t renew with AHS because of the combination of the issues I've mentioned plus the actual expense. The service costs over $700 a year. February the 1st would have been the renewal date. I notified them in December that I wouldn’t be renewing. First, they said that it had to be done by a phone conversation but no one ever called me. Later on, they sent me an email acknowledging that I had provided a cancellation notice. They did not make a charge against my bank account on February 1st, so I assume that the cancellation has occurred.

When my garbage disposal went out, I just called American Home Shield and told them I needed service and they scheduled it. They sent a ticket and their contractor gave me a call four days later and then, they did the repair that day. The contractors were great. I worked with them almost daily, and they were good people. The service was good service and we saved money on repair cost.

American Home Shield is a very reputable company. I’ve been with them for about nine years and I've always had great service from them. I filed a claim online for a water leak from the water pressure regulator valve that had raptured. Submitting the claim was very easy and their website was user-friendly. The contractors who came out were very professional, too. They identified the leak, explained all the options that I had, and fixed the problem. All was taken care of very quickly.

The first time I submitted the heating claim with American Home Shield, I had a hard time getting through. I called the night when I noticed the temperatures had dropped in the house, and I told the representative that I needed someone to come out because the outside unit was already installed. That representative kept telling me there was nothing he could do, that he was going to send it over to a supervisor and that a supervisor would reach out to me. But no one ever reached out to me.

After I spoke to that rep that night, I didn't feel comfortable and I decided to try calling the back-end line, the one I called to make the payment when I got the unit. The young lady was very helpful and she expedited the claim immediately. I was able to get help within 24 hours the next day. So they have good customer service skills but the first rep needs a little retraining. He wasn’t really someone who had good people skills. But other than that, I give AHS an A plus.

The dispatcher came out and found out it was the thermostat that went up in the house. They replaced that and everything has been great. I had a good relationship with the contractors too. They were nice, helpful and funny. The same one came back out and he was really great. The two who came to install the unit were very nice guys as well. I was very pleased and happy to deal with them because they made me feel that they would get the problem taken care of. I'm happy and I'm going to renew my policy in February. I have also recommended American Home Shield to three friends. Even though you have to pay that $125 for them to come out and do the assessment, it’s worth it because they give constructive positive feedback.

Our shower stopped working and I was knowledgeable enough that I speculated that it was possibly a frozen pipe before the plumber got here. A plumber showed up but wasn’t able to do anything under our home warranty. The representative I spoke with said that a frozen pipe is not covered under the warranty. And it was a waste of my time waiting around for a contractor who wounded up being a little late and he couldn't do anything to prove or disprove if it was a frozen pipe. He couldn't fix it, too. Despite that, American Home Shield communicated with us quickly.

The faucet upstairs wouldn’t shut off and the hot water kept running on it. We called American Home Shield to fix it. The contractors came out and said they changed the washers. And then, the faucet started leaking again. So, we called AHS back but we had to wait for two hours on hold and it was like the longest wait. They came out again and ended up changing out the whole faucet. We called because it was the same issue and we shouldn't have had to pay for it twice. But we ended up having to pay for it again. And then there was a leak downstairs from one of the faucets underneath the shut-off valve. It happened right when they were done replacing the faucets and we tried to explain this to AHS. It’s not fixed yet and we have another person coming out.

We've also had claims for the garbage disposal and some electrical issues before. The majority of their contractors did a good job, although every once in a while, we get one that's not so great. There were just a few times that we weren't really happy with their work. But I'm happy to have AHS and I tell people about them. It’s nice to have that extra insurance because it’s really a lifesaver when you have appliances go out and when you do have leaks and issues with your faucets.

I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue and it wasn't long before a plumber called and came out. He was really nice except that he wasn't the one that unclogged my plumbing. He said he had to dig the floor up and take the concrete, and then of course all of that had to be replaced. He said it would be $12,000 because the floor would have to be recovered. I called my homeowners' insurance and told them what was going on. The adjuster said that the quote from the initial plumber was too high, and within a couple hours, he had his plumbers here and they unplugged my plumbing. The initial contractor didn't snake far enough, and if he had gone a little bit further like the other guys did, he might have broken through.

This was the first time that I'd ever had a problem with American Home Shield. But whenever they've come out, I've been satisfied. Their contractors clean up their mess and everything seems to be okay. It doesn't take them long to get out there and I just pay their deductible. It takes two or three days to order a part like they did for my stove, but there's no extra charge. Knowing that I can call someone and they'll respond for my appliances is a big relief. I'm pleased with American Home Shield and I've been recommending it to other people that have plumbing problems or trouble with their washer and dryer.

We had recently bought our place and there was wiring near a wall that was non-protected. The American Home Shield electrician who came out said that it was a potential cause of fire. He also said that there were black marks up and down the wall and that the problem should've been caught by an inspector. Still, he could have been more thorough. He was a bit difficult to understand from a non-electrician standpoint. Instead of simply moving forward and saying that everything has been fixed, he could have come up with a solution to tell us why the problem would have been caught and what was done to resolve it.

The people I spoke with from American Home Shield are very professional. Though sometimes, when I have a problem, I ask for a supervisor. But in the end, things get usually resolved. Recently, I submitted a claim for a heater. The contractor they sent was very professional, and since the repair, the heater has been working fine. Other than that, we had a terrible problem with our refrigerator and I felt that American Home Shield wasn't acting on our behalf. It came to a point that we're ready to leave them because seven weeks without a refrigerator is unacceptable. That was very bad.

I've been with AHS for 10 years now because there is value in their service. Some years I didn't have a claim, while other years, I had two which pays for itself. I had a repair that was not done and had to be redone but that was more of parts issue than a service issue. The most recent claim I had was for my AC's heat pump. Doing it online was easy. Their site works pretty well wherein I could get in and out quickly. And although I had to wait for them to get back to me, it was fairly rapid and the service has been good.

I like using local OEMs but I swapped those guys for the contractor who came out and did my AC because of the service he did. Since the service, the AC has been working fine. The only issue I have with AHS is that the repairs are not quick because of the process one has to go through. I have to make the service call and then the selected vendor would get back with me within a day or two. When they find out what’s wrong, they would go back to AHS to have the repair approved. And if they need to go buy parts, they would come back out and do the actual work. Even though that’s the cheapest way to get it done, if I'm sitting here in a 105-degree heat after the air conditioning going out, that could be a little aggravating. But that’s just the nature of the beast.

It's winter and my furnace went out. AHS is closed on the weekend, so I had to wait until Monday to call and get a technician to come out. The company that I was set up with only works from eight to four, which is the same exact hours that I am at work. I called them when I got off of work and they were not open. It was a disaster. And then, AHS set me up with a different company. They came out and said that my furnace wasn't covered since my chimney caused condensation, which caused the furnace to go out. I ended up having to pay out of my pocket to get it fixed the week of Christmas.

I'm in Illinois and there was a time where I was without heat for four days. AHS said that they would reimburse me for the heater that I had to purchase but I never got reimbursed for that. My electricity was $250 for the couple of days we had the heater. Also, I had to wait down the phone for an hour and a half. I had to put my phone on speaker since I had to talk to somebody. I had to figure out what was going on.

The purpose of me getting the whole warranty was in case something goes out and I thought it was a good idea. However, every time I would file a claim, it wasn't covered so having AHS was a waste of money for me. I've been with them not very long and I've already canceled their service. There was a lady at customer service who was very nice and a very good employee, but there was nothing she can do about the problem. I told her she needed to go find another job since the company wouldn't do anything. It's just the way the company is.

My Realtor mother had told me about American Home Shield when I was closing on my house and I’ve had them for about 14 years now. I had called in a plumbing deal. I put in some shut-off valves and thought I had a leaking toilet, where the ring was leaking, but that was not the case. They just tightened it up. But then, I had another call a couple of weeks ago, but I found out it was my irrigation system rather than plumbing and I ended up telling the plumbing company if I didn’t need them, I'll call the company in charge for irrigation system over, which I did. All my experience with the companies that work with American Home Shield has been good. A couple of the plumbing companies that they use are not that great, but usually, I use Budget, which is a great company.

I usually call my claims in because I've had more success, but it looks like they're getting more and more where I need to go online because when you call them in, you're not getting any person most of the time and it takes you forever to try to talk to a person. I had a call recently where I was calling on this plumbing deal and I was trying to tell them what was going on because I didn’t think they needed to put in a ticket at that time. But because I was dealing with the electronic person, I never got a live person, and so the thing went through. I got a call from the plumbing company the next morning and I explained to them that I may not need it. But from dealing with them over the years, they're giving you more and more where they want you to do everything online because they're making it inconvenient to talk to a person.

The contractors are good. I had a problem with my washer last year and the first technician that came out saw where there was a lot of things that needed to be replaced at that time because they were all going dead. He ordered the parts but when the parts came in the company, they sent another technician and this guy I got the impression that he was lazy. So, he said, "Well, you don't really need all of these and this and that.” He ended up ordering another part. And then, the third guy that showed up to do the repair on the washer ended up taking most of the parts that had been ordered back because he said, "You didn’t think you need it for the moment that time." Each one of them had a different spin. I felt the two other guys had shortchanged me on that. But so far, the washer has been working.

I'm a trustee in my subdivision and I get a lot of people a lot of times telling me, "Hey, I got this problem and this problem," and so I highly recommend American Home Shield. I also have a next-door neighbor and every time I look up, I see Budget over there doing something at their house. So, they tell me they're really impressed with Budget and they're impressed with American Home Shield. And that had been the case with the people that I had referred American Home Shield to. They have been impressed as I have. Everything has been excellent. I had a problem once with the air conditioning and I called American Home Shield, and they sent another company which made the decision to replace the air conditioner. When I ran into a problem, I called in and talked to a person, and they took care of it right away. Overall, American Home Shield has been great that's why I've been with them this long.

I'm not very technical so I have American Home Shield. My brand new $8,000 furnace didn’t come on and we were freezing to death. This happened on the coldest night of the year. It was traced back to the breaker box thing and I’m lucky the pipes didn’t burst. I always call my claims in. I know I can do it online but I’ve heard that you get a more instant response when you call. I called since this was pretty much of an emergency situation. There was also a garbage disposal issue. The air-conditioning was a total disaster because a technician kept coming out and just refilling the coolant. He did not bother to notice that there was a leak and did not bother to tell me that I was throwing my money away. I had to have them come every couple of months and track these little problems because the big problem is the 20-year-old system and it needed to be replaced. But I could have saved a lot.

The contractors AHS sent has been amazing, except for one. The plumbing guys and the electrical guys were amazing. The electrical guys were so knowledgeable and walked me through everything I needed to know. They are always prompt and they put booties on their shoes when they come in the door so they don’t get my floor dirty. Since the repair, everything’s working fine like it should. If you buy a house and you don’t know anything about the house, having AHS is a no-brainer because you never know what disaster might happen. That was a huge confidence booster for me knowing that, even though I had to pay out of the pocket, at least I had the ability to make a phone call and find out what was wrong.

I was having some difficulty a month ago about my electricity and American Home Shield came out to fix it. It went out on a weekend so I had to wait. I did send them an email to let them know that I needed help. They got right on it on Monday and the tech was here on Tuesday. I explained to him that my house is old and the wiring was old. I had sockets that would blow the bulb if I turn on the switch. He went over the sockets and made sure everything was right. The switch in the kitchen wasn't working right and so they put something in the electrical socket and put in a new fixture. I only had to pay $75 and he got everything restored. The gentleman was the most professional.

I've been with American Home Shield for a while and I love them. I left them and went somewhere else, but as soon as the year was over, I went straight back to American Home Shield. They come when I call them and they always return the call. Sometimes I file the claim online and they send a confirmation right over to the person that they're going to have to come to my home, so I know it's already in. I just call to make sure everything is done and they give me the number and name of the company that's coming. At that point, I converse with the contractor and they set up the date that they're coming. The people who come are professional and get the job done. Then American Home Shield checks back with me to make sure everything is okay. It has been amazing.

The techs repaired my dryer, washing machine, furnace, and the electricity. My furnace was a bit tricky for them but they got it working. It works better than it did when I got it brand new. I will keep American Home Shield forever. It has been a pleasure having them and knowing that my home is safe. It doesn't cost me an arm and a leg so I'm grateful I have them. Not only would I recommend them to a friend, I've recommended them to several people and they have gotten on board with American Home Shield. I love American Home Shield.

The hold time on the phone wasn’t long when I submitted the claim but I’ve heard that it was very difficult to set up an appointment sometimes. My garage door was going up slow and I did not know that when they go up slow, that means that there is tension on the spring and something is going wrong. One day when I was pushing the button, the spring broke and the door came down really hard. So I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out who stayed for an hour talking with me then was on the phone with American Home Shield for about 40 minutes. The gentleman then told me that AHS declined my claim because it was my fault that the garage door broke.

So I called AHS and told them, “Ma’am, how can it be my fault? I do not know the first thing about garage doors and this is why I pay the premium service, the top one”. She told me, “No, you should have known that you were adding pressure on the spring with the garage door going up slow. That’s why we’re declining it”. Like every other American, all I do is push the button to open and close it. They refused my claim which was very disappointing.

I have had AHS for five years and it seems that every time I call AHS, they look for the gray zone to wiggle their way out of paying for something but every month, the payment is automatic withdrawal. I pay AHS and if some reason there is a problem, they do not hesitate to call and grind real quick. "We need the payment. We need the payment". But when I need services, they try to wiggle out or look for that fine print that can help them not pay for a claim. I’m not too satisfied with AHS. I’m still paying it and once I’m done, I’m going to cancel them.

Also, the guy who came here was charging AHS about $700 to do it and then he turned around and told me, “Hey this is not the price I’m charging you. I’ll do it for $400 but I’m charging them $700. Just don’t say anything". I found that to be wrong itself. My garage door is still broken and it has been about three months. I can't even open it.

Our dishwasher wasn’t going through the cycle fully and the wands weren’t spinning, spraying, rinsing, and it wasn’t draining. I live about 30 miles outside of the nearest city and our city has only about 100,000 people. You would think it would be way more difficult to submit a claim and get somebody out here in a timely manner but it’s pretty simple. Also, I submit my claims online and it’s way better than calling in where I get stuck on hold forever. I don’t get anybody on the phone within 15 to 30 minutes. In the 10 years of my policy, I have loved the contractors that they’ve sent except two. One was way back when we first got the policy. That guy was creepy. There was a plumbing guy that I’ve warned American Home Shield as he was completely inappropriate and they took him right off the list.

I have multiple homes through American Home Shield. One time I had 3 but now I’m down to just two homes with them. I love this company and it has got to a point where when families move in to this small town and they look for a home warranty company, I usually shout off the rooftops how much I love American Home Shield. I’m very pro them. I love the customer service but one incident has put a bitter taste in my mouth.

Our policies renew in September of every year. In October, I tried to do a claim online for my water softener system because it started to go out. But I couldn’t get the automated system to understand what I’m asking. I got my policy and I don’t see my water softener on my policy anymore. When I renewed the policy, I scanned it quickly and saw all of the appliances. There’s one tiny line that if you have additional things added to your plan, it’ll say “Additional things covered”, and it would have said “Water softener”. I didn’t notice that the water softener wasn’t there and that was my fault.

Being a long-standing customer, they should have sent out something saying that they are no longer covering water softeners. I could have gone and found somebody that would have covered it. By the time I found out they didn’t cover it, it was too late. I’m out $750 dollars to have that thing repaired and it took the techs two different times to come out here to finally fix it, and that’s cheaper than the policy I pay for through American Home Shield.

My water softener broke down in October and it was fixed just this last Monday. I was livid. Who knows what damage it’s done to appliances and things like that in the house from not having the water softener because we live out in the country with all the mineral water. The AHS rep said that she’s sorry that the water softener is not covered. That doesn’t mean anything to me. There’s no part on a water softener that is less than $200. Also, the rep said that somebody from their retention department would call me but no one ever called me back since October.

I usually submit my claims online and the experience has been fine. It doesn’t let us really get specific about what the problem is, though, which is one thing that we noticed. An outlet in the bathroom did not work at all and there was no reason found at the breaker panel. The electrician was wonderful and he was attentive. He listened and he investigated the problem thoroughly, and he found out that our GFCI was wired incorrectly. Since the repair, the outlet has been working great. Sometimes it would be nice if there were a couple of different companies to choose from, and we would rather have other people aside from the ones they send, particularly the plumbers. But as far as everything else, it has been pretty good so far. American Home Shield is a really good idea when you are buying a previously owned house.

I had a problem with my dishwasher and I called AHS to submit the claim. I talked to three different people and they were all responsive. I finally got to a supervisor the last time because I had waited in between times and it was past the time, and the supervisor had to approve waiving another fee. There were three different service calls that were made and each one fit something different so, the dishwasher wouldn’t work, it was cut off in mid cycle and I had to go downstairs.

Finally, a repair person said it was the dishwasher, one said it was the breaker, and another said that it was just a short so, it kind of dragged it out a little bit. But, it turned to be a breaker and by replacing the breaker and the breaker box remedied the issue. It shouldn’t have taken that many trips by that many people to get it fixed. Other than that, I’m still a believer in American Home Shield. They’re convenient, they’ll get things fixed, but sometimes, it's just quite a process. I will be using their online claim submission because I waited for at least an hour when I called them.

The first contractor they sent out was supposed to come out at 8 AM but didn't show up so I requested a second one and he was absolutely fantastic to work with. However, he came with a builder's grade faucet. I wanted a better one so I bought my own. I expected AHS to reimburse at least the amount that they were going to pay for the original faucet but the process of trying to get reimbursed was horrible. Whenever I would call and try to talk to a live person, I’d have to be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour. Then, the customer service people absolutely refused to take my request to be reimbursed. They even refused to let me talk to a supervisor. I finally had to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau to get a response and once I did, someone contacted me and I got reimbursed. The whole process took two months. I was very dissatisfied.

You just put the information in and it wasn’t long after that American Home Shield sent me a text to tell me who would come in and look at the problem. The online part of it is good. It’s when you’re trying to get in touch with somebody that's hard. But you've got to wait for everything now because people are not hiring anybody to do it so everything is computerized. Besides, the claims reps treated me well and I got good customer service from them.

Every one of the contractors sent by American Home Shield was good. In one visit, there was another issue that the contractor couldn't take care of so I had to call American Home Shield back. I submitted the claim around Thanksgiving and it took about a week before I could get somebody out. I assumed that was because it was during the holidays. But once the electrician came and took care of the problem, everything was up and running. So far, I’ve been real satisfied with my service. I would recommend American Home Shield, especially to somebody who's been in the home for a while. The warranty is good for that.

I wish I had something there to know that the work was complete or know what to do if there was an issue. Eventually, I was able to call the contractor and let him know. It seemed to work when he was there, but it's worse now because it continuously ran if the handle wasn't pulled back up to the neutral or start position. I then resubmitted the request for this plumbing issue online while I was also doing another claim for the dishwasher, but the system didn't let me put in two requests. Other than that, the online claim submission was easy. It asks for the brand of the appliance and it's just clicking boxes.

I'm been paying premiums for over 5 years now to AHS for my townhouse but the one time you need them-It's always such a hassle getting them to help you. My dishwasher wasn't working so put in a request 1/3/18. The contractor didn't show up for his first appointment. The send appointment he said she didn't know the company for the appliance then by 1/11 they figured out the motherboard needed replacement and wasn't available. They washed hands off our request- marked it as closed and when I call Vertex appliances they tell me now it's up to AHS shield to replace the item. Nobody from AHS has contacted me. When I call them today they don't know anything about what's going on- while they have charged me the service fee on top of my premiums. This is ridiculous. We have gone almost 4 weeks without a dishwasher not knowing what's happening next. Feels like such a waste of money spending on them. So frustrating.

Updated on 02/02/2018: Now it’s been 4 wks since this whole thing started for us. After waiting for 4 wks the part arrived but (surprise, surprise!!) it's the wrong part- because the technician who ordered it never even came to the house! So again we are back to square one! The social media coordinator from AHS emailed once and then has been MIA still! They assigned a new contractor whose first available is 2 wks from now. What should a customer like me do- have paid all my premiums, have already paid for the visit which was a total waste of time and money and still no resolution. I’m ready to post on Facebook/Twitter/anywhere and everywhere people will listen how bad AHS service is.

My hot water heater broke and American Home Shield replaced it. The problem started when the water heater that their plumber put in started to leak soon after it was installed. I called them and they sent their plumber to look at it ($100 charge just for that). He looked at it and said it shouldn't be a problem. A few months went by and the leak got much worse (see pictures). I called them and they sent the plumber back out (another $100). This time he said it was serious and that if left as is, the whole thing could go and create a major problem. He also said that you couldn't just replace the leaking pipe but that the entire unit had to be replaced. After this, I was shocked when I got called by American Home Shield and they said that they would not cover this. I said "but you did the work, you didn't do it correctly, do you not stand by your own work?" They said they only cover units that are leaking and there was no water on the floor.

I offered to send them the pictures (attached below) but they wouldn't look at them and wouldn't send another person out to look at the situation unless there was water actively leaking. Literally, they would not let me speak to anyone else or have anyone review the situation further. While thinking about taking this to court, I just didn't want the bother so I had to reach into my pocket and pay $2,000 for a new water heater (which was amazingly installed without anything leaking!) So what in the world did I have American Home Shield for? Needless to say I've gone to someone else for Home insurance and would not, in any way, recommend American Home Shield.

Submitting the claim was easy but timing was terrible because it was Friday evening going into Christmas week so I was so cold. But this was in Arizona so it’s not that bad. My unit was 20 years old and it was time to be replaced. I went ahead and did that.

The contractor was good. The pricing was fair. He explained everything pretty well, and did some extra work for me that you wouldn’t expect for an air conditioning company to be able to do plus it didn’t cost too much. The one thing that sucks about home warranty though is that it’s very difficult to get something replaced. It just keeps getting fixed over and over again. I submitted a claim for my heating and a claim for my electricity. American Home Shield sent someone out for the heating, but no one ever came out for my electricity. They charged me $200 dollars on my card, so I was also charged for a service that I didn’t get. They said they were going to refund the $100 but I never got it. There was also a guy that was trying to force us to get a new air conditioning unit. He was trying to use some kind of scare tactic, saying that I needed a new AC. He saw the carbon monoxide that I was having and I told him that somebody came a couple of months ago and they didn’t say anything about a leak. But because I wanted to get a second opinion, he just fixed the heating and didn’t do anything with the AC.

I told him to go ahead and order the part for the AC but he said there was no sense in doing that, and he never submitted the order for that part. American Home Shield said they were waiting for that order because he said I was going to get a second opinion. American Home Shield kept sending him out, so this same guy put the part in. But now my house will not heat at the bottom floor and only heat at the top floor, so we had to plug up an extra heater for the downstairs. Before he came out, it would heat on both floors. And because downstairs is cold, they didn’t see anything wrong with it.

In the past, I had positive experiences with American Home Shield. I have a house in Dallas that I have American Home Shield on. But when I started renting it out, my brother became the leaser where he has rented out the home. He has Sword, and I told him that I’m going to switch to Sword once I get my money back from American Home Shield. I would not pay upfront ever again. Their customer service sends out people that are the bottom of the row. They are not worth it.

It would be better though if AHS sends one person following the same problem over time. For the same work, they sent out two groups of people. But I think that's not a big deal because they finish the job well. It has been a good experience. I don't want to repair my stuff all the time. But if it comes, it's being addressed efficiently. And with AHS, one can probably also save money because something is going to go wrong from time to time at home.

I have a microwave oven in one of my rental homes and every time one contractor comes, you have to pay $75 and I was disappointed with them. They don't do the service. They just fix it for a couple of months. So I just went to the store to bought one to put on the top of the counter. The people that American Home Shield work for them should be honest with the work. People get mad. So I canceled and I pulled back again. And then we chose another company. When a customer calls in a problem, the company they signed up with will come and do the service but they not do a good job. Then they come to collect the $75 and then you call them back again after a couple of months.

We live in the valley and it was so hot last year. The renters called us to say that the air conditioner was not working. The air conditioner was 10 years old. But the service guy told me that it will take one day and I have to order it. They won't come because they were so busy that time. So, I had to send the renters for five days to a hotel and paid them because they cannot stay in the house because it was very hot. We had to call somebody else and I went to buy a new air conditioner. This guy promised me that it will cost me $5,500 personal insurance in four days, and that he can put it on because they have to order.

They put the air condition and put everything to work. At the same time, it cost from my pocket $6,000. When I came back, American Home Shield told me that I had to go through the process and call people. I got upset and told them that we're going to cancel the policy because this is BS. Then the lady rep said that she will talk with the company. Finally, after a couple of months, they said that they will give us $2,000 as long as we don't cancel with them. But at the same time, I put out $4,000 from my pocket because I had to go through the process. The service that American Home Shield do isn’t good. I'm an old lady and I have insurance for my house and rentals. They have to be honest because I pay $50 every month for the insurance.

But since it was a holiday weekend, it's hard to get a call from them.

So, I finally called three days later and then they gave me the appliance company's name and number and I called them and set up service. I got them to come the following day. While the technician wasn't able to repair my washing machine, he was kind and knowledgeable. And they gave us an offer to replace the washing machine. Additionally, you can make requests or refuse providers. They tried to give me one that was terrible, so I asked for a different one, and they got us that. Overall, American Home Shield is good. The tech is good and the washing machine was repaired, however, in less than a month it was doing the same thing that it was doing before. So, I went back online and submitted a claim the second time. A different rep came from the same company. He was very informative, and just like the first guy, he was very respectful. Both talked like they knew what was going on with the washer and I had every confidence in them.

I told the second guy that I wasn’t pleased with the service because in less than 30 days, the same thing was happening again. The rep said that the person who initially came out no longer worked for him. And because the rep said it would cost way too much to get the washing machine fixed from the condition that he diagnosed first as what the first person diagnosed, I just went ahead and got the washing machine replaced. It’s a small washer and it’s been good since the replacement. I would recommend American Home Shield. I was very pleased with the service that I've gotten and the cost is not astronomical too. The maintenance fee went up a little bit from $75 when I first started to $100 now.

I had a few claims with American Home Shield, for the refrigerator, the AC and the furnace. The first time they fixed the refrigerator, it didn’t work so I had to call them again. I also wanted to make sure that I wouldn't get charged for the service fee again. It was a long wait but I was able to talk to them. After that, I was able to do it on the web and I was surprised that it was very easy and efficient. I didn’t have to wait on a long call either.

I also had to call back quite a few times for my AC but the schedule was set up fairly quickly. The contractors sent out for all these issues were quick and efficient, and the refrigerator and the AC are now working. My furnace is not heating up enough though, and they said it’s under time so they’re not replacing it. But other than that, they've done the best they could. American Home Shield is a good coverage except you have to pay the service fee but I am happy with the warranty.

It was a little cold and it was good that the contractor came out fast the next day, and the heater is working now. We’ve been with AHS for five years. The dealing has been good when I spoke with their reps and the contractors that they sent out have been all right. But they should get their call time down a little bit to improve their service.

We were trying to sell a condo and the buyer wanted us to put a brand new water heater in. The water heater was working but they said it wasn’t working. My real estate agent said to just call AHS and ask them about it. The tech came out and looked at it. They said that for the age of the water heater, it was doing what it needed to do. I was not going to replace it unless they said it was bad and I was very happy with the outcome. I was really surprised that submitting the claim was easy. I had no idea that I could call the warranty company. Once I took that warranty out, I didn't know that it would cover something like that even though I hadn’t sold the property yet. My agent informed me of everything and I said, “Wow, that’s wonderful".

I did everything over the phone with AHS. Their reps were very nice to me and did everything that we asked them to do. My agent got it going and she was there when the tech came. I'd recommend using American Home Shield as it was very beneficial to me. I wasn’t going to take one but my agent said that it would be a good selling feature. It makes a buyer feel a little more secure that their appliances are being taken care of since nobody knows when they are going to break down -- even a brand new item could break down.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield online for my tub that was leaking and they sent a plumber out. The guy was all right but I wasn’t satisfied with him. My wife was disenchanted with him. She was not particularly happy with the remedy. It was a simple repair but the plumber said we needed to get a part that was $500. I called AHS in response to the solution he offered. Their reps were very courteous and they treated me well. They asked me if I would like to get a second opinion on it and I did. I was very satisfied with the second plumber and my wife liked him because he fixed the problem. He simply put some plumber’s putty on it and it fixed it.

AHS has room for improvement. Before we had our refrigerator repaired but our ice maker still doesn’t work. The mechanism works and it will dispense ice if we put it manually but it doesn’t make any ice. I've had some aggravating experiences with AHS but mostly I've also had good ones. I would advise and encourage someone to get it if they’re purchasing a home that has some age on it.

Filing a claim online to American Home Shield was really easy and all of it was good. The claim was for my heating system that was not working properly. The contractors usually get here the same day or the next day. And I’ll give them a big plus for being professional and courteous. Although, they’ve been coming back and forth because they’re figuring out the little problems while fixing the heater. AHS has been good at this point and they’re letting the contractors come back to look at the problem.

Other than that, AHS has terrible phone service. I’ve had a couple of instances where we needed to get something fixed with my account on the website and I was never able to get anybody to really work with. And once I got somebody, it would take an hour to get them on the line and if you got them, they hung up or you got disconnected. You can never get them back again. All in all, AHS has very good people over to do the service and I’m very satisfied with their professionals.

The heat of my furnace was off and when I submitted a claim for that with American Home Shield I had to be on hold for about 40 minutes to get through to them. Trying to get through American Home Shield is like pulling teeth, it’s going to take forever to get the teeth out. Another time, I was on hold for an hour. One time, it was two hours. It was a total of about four times of calling before I finally said, “Look, I don’t want to talk to you no more, you don’t sign your paycheck, let me speak to your supervisor”. When that person got on, I said “No, let me speak to your supervisor”, and that’s the only way I was able to get help.

The people that they sent here had come three times to fix it. When they first came we had heat but it was smoking so we had to call the fire department and the fire department went up there and said that they didn’t see anything wrong but I had to get somebody out to check it. So, AHS sent somebody to check it and they said it was the wires. They replaced a couple of wires on there. I do not ever want Cutting Edge, the contractor, to ever come back here because they started this chain reaction. The very first time they came they were very unprofessional with the profanity and they didn’t know what they were doing. They had to say, “I don't know what I’m doing, let me go get someone”. Then they had to go and get the boss and when they came back, they wired it totally wrong and almost caused an explosion in this house. We were going back and forth without heat in the frigid cold since November the 22nd and it was a nightmare.

AHS finally found someone who came out and did excellent service. He went upstairs, isolated the problem and came back downstairs with the burnt out wire. Then we had to go to an electrician who came and said that we needed to get Cutting Edge back out here because when he turned the circuit breaker on the thing produced a “Boom!” and shut off, sparks and everything. It was very scary but it took a good 30 minutes for the new guy to come and fix it. When we tell AHS that there is a dire emergency, they need to speed up. We’re not trying to twist their arm or trying to get ahead of the list but they need to make it a priority.

We had a copper pipe that was leaking and American Home Shield sent out a plumber to repair the issue. Unfortunately, the plumber had to come out three times before it was fixed. Ultimately, the problem was a water heater gone bad and it was sending current through the pipes. Trying to resolve this issue was cumbersome and a pain because our water heater interfaces with our HVAC system. American Home Shield did not have anyone of their vendors that work on our type of water heater so we had to find our own. It was a $4,000 job to replace our water heater. After we went through the process and found a licensed contractor, American Home Shield then told us that they only would reimburse up to $1,600 because of the type of water heater we have which we weren’t aware of.

Getting the actual pipe fixed was a really good experience. But getting to the root cause of the issue with the water heater was terrible. We had the same issue as well when our air conditioner went out. They sent contractors out that didn’t work on our type of system. The communication with the contractors wasn’t bad though. There was one company that American Home Shield sent out. We had to pay a $100 fee but they weren’t able to work on it so we had to get that refunded. However, getting in contact with American Home Shield was another headache because typically, anytime we called, we had to wait on hold for 45 minutes until we got someone.

But everything is good now. We finally got our water heater replaced almost two weeks ago and it’s great. We highly suggest getting a home warranty to our friends and suggest a research and see which company suits them best. But for us, AHS is not the best fit so when our contract ends, we’d probably look and go with someone else.

About a month ago I had American Home Shield send someone in to deal with a slow draining sink. That guy said in the note that he thought it might be a foreign object. He had no idea what was down there but a foreign object is jumping too far. They refused to pay for the work and I was a bit disappointed with that. He submitted a report and I got a letter from AHS saying that it was outside of their exemptions, which I wasn’t very happy with. They send someone out but they refuse to work on the diagnosis.

We informed American Home Shield that our water heater was broken and it had to be replaced. We also gave them the model, and then the plumbing company came and they said that they brought a shorter and fatter version of a different brand. They also said that they needed to change and extend gas and water lines. They asked approximately $600 as an extra cost. I called American Home Shield's customer service and I had to really talk, fight and travel to get a second opinion because the water heater costs only $395. Even if I was paying the water heater plus their installation fee, they were charging $600 on the top of that. I felt it was not a right thing. They were trying to take advantage of the situation. Then the second company came and they could do it right away. They did well and everything is fine now. It was a very bitter experience, but American Home Shield is a good company and I've recommended them to several people.

Also, American Home Shield should have a consumer relationship phone number like other companies have. I had to talk to three different people for my issue and they were not able to understand. I had to ask one lady to put me through her manager and they were not ready to do that. It was getting delayed and we did not have the water heater for one week. Overall, I was satisfied with the other things. But it is very important to keep existing customers satisfied rather than trying to get new customers.

Our neighbor recommended Home Shield three months ago and right after that, everything kept falling apart. I submitted my claims online and recently, it was for the kitchen faucet that was leaking. I filed another claim for my tub faucet that was also leaking and the contractor is coming out today to work on that. On average, it takes five days for someone to come out. But overall, AHS would save me money in the long term. So if any other neighbor were to ask, I would still recommend them.

So far, things have been pretty good with AHS, except that incident I had with Sears. My washing machine wasn’t working and Sears took too long to repair it. First, it took them a week to have somebody come out and order a part. Then, when the part came to the house, the service wasn’t available for another two weeks. With three kids, it was hard for me to have a broken washing machine for that long. It was a three-week process with Sears and finally, I got fed up and called AHS to have the work reassigned to somebody else. Someone came that day with the part that was already ordered by Sears. Initially, he wouldn’t do it because the part was ordered by someone else. But he left and called his manager. Then he came back an hour later, luckily put the part in, and it worked.

I have just added one of my other rental properties on my American Home Shield account. I've been with them for over 10 years. I've dropped them and then I picked them back up and I really like the new policy that they have. The old one was the reason that I left. We recently made an appliance claim and got four things done on the rental property. The stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer needed to be repaired and we put all of them on one ticket. The refrigerator's door was bouncing back, so they fixed it. Also, the pilots weren't coming on right at the gas stove, the dryer was not heating to full capacity and the washer was not doing its full washing cycle.

When I was submitting the claim, I was on a very long hold which I didn’t like. I asked why that was and from what I was told, it was due to the flooding in Texas where the headquarters is. They haven't been able to get enough people, so the time equality of getting a service for that is horrible. I was on the phone and I was at work. I couldn't spend two hours on the phone trying to get a service call out. But I like talking to a live person and I don’t use the online submission. If we get so used to doing stuff online and automated, then they put people out of work. I'm used to working customer service and I know what it's like. I don’t like talking to recordings and I want the company to work for me because that’s why I pay.

Still, I was able to talk to an American Home Shield representative and everything was great. The contractor who came out was really friendly and from what I was told, they did a great job. I had my mother out there for the first call. Then the tenant was there when he repaired everything. My mother and the tenant both gave me great feedback. Then I spoke to contractor myself in reference to why things were taking so long and they said they had to order through AHS. I would recommend AHS to someone.

I have been having problems with the replacement washer that I got two years ago through American Home Shield. When the Burke's technician came out, I described to him what the problem was. I told him that when I get on the bulky side cycle, like with the bulky sheets and towels, it wouldn't go through all the stages and it would stop. He did some diagnostic test. First, he had to level it off and a whole bunch of stuff. He got different parts and I have all of my receipts. Then, the problem continued to occur and they sent out another senior tech person under Burke's Appliance and Repair. He said, "We had a code about the lid not locking." I said, "Yeah, that happens too." But that started after they did the first initial diagnostics and made some changes.

The senior tech came out on the 23rd, Saturday morning before Christmas Eve and he installed the lid lock. He said he turned it through all the cycles and everything is fine. I said, "I have a lot of clothes I need to wash." I put a load of about 10 towels and it stopped. I said," I'm going to leave these towels right where it is in the washing machine because I want you to see. I didn't want Burke's to come back out because Burke's didn't come out." American Home Shield tried to reach them. They didn't respond even to American Home Shield so, when I called them, I've had them there through the whole Christmas holiday.

The washing machine is only two years old and I have called Whirlpool. Whirlpool mentioned to me, "Do you think they would pay for me to send you our factory authorize technician out?" I said, "I doubt it." Because my hot water heater went out and that's supposed to be covered. I didn't like how they responded to that so I had to go with BGE Home. The people that they transferred me to, Monster Tech, does heating and our refrigeration. However, it would have been nice for them to tell me that they weren't coming and that they had to be rescheduled because the clients that they have didn't have any heat.

The contractor they sent didn't do any fixing. He just sat on the side of the unit and it froze up the very next day again. He didn't do any wrapping to prevent it from happening again. I’ve been trying to keep it from freezing up and now the temperature has raised. I had already paid for one visit and I figured they would send the same people back out. I tried to call them back another time but I couldn't get through so I've not tried again.

We had another claim with the washing machine and the same thing came out to happen. It was a different contractor and they said there was nothing wrong with the washing machine. I hope they send someone else. The washing machine's doing the same thing. The contractor didn't fix it and it's leaking water and not getting the clothes cleaned. I'm paying two different American Home Shield accounts for two different houses right now. There were two different contractors and two totally different things and neither one of them did anything when they came out but they took the $75 deductible out of our account immediately. And they said there was nothing they could do.

First the customer support is horrible. Wait times of over an hour. The customer reps say they will contact me the next day with information regarding my order; they never do. I had to call again and wait another hour (3 times) to get a hold of representative. I requested help regarding my air conditioner that was not cooling. The first service repairman came and recharged the system. Quickly left and told me that cooling coils need to be replaced but warned me that AHS will never do it. They will try recharging and using agents to try to repair the leak. The AC did not cool the next day. I requested another technician. He recharged the system and added more sealant.

He wrote on the receipt that the cooling coils are damaged and need to be replaced. I called AHS to ask why they won't replace the cooling coils. They informed me that the cooling coils need to be cleaned from mold. I told them there is no mold on the unit and that the technician did not mention any mold but said they are damaged from age. I asked why their assessment is different from the one that the technician gave me in writing. AHS replied that they won't share what the technicians report with me but my coils have to be cleaned and that is not covered. I requested a third opinion from a different company. The third technician wrote that the cooling coils need to be replaced due to damage (nothing about mold).

He underlined that AHS can deny the service. I had no reply from AHS for two weeks. When I called two days in a row AHS did not have an assessment from the technician. They promised to call back the next day. They never did. Third day I called and was told that the damage is from mold and they will not replace the part. I asked why the assessment that the technician gave me at home is different from AHS. AHS responded that the technicians may want give me false assessment to make money on the side and that AHS does not cover damage from mold (earlier they said they will not clean the cooling coils from mold). I asked why AHS trusts technicians that are lying to me in their assessment. AHS said they will not share the technician's assessment provided to AHS they will not cover the parts and hung up on me.

I believe AHS wants to continue to do small repairs but never intended to cover replacement of major parts. The technicians written assessment in my house was different from what AHS told me and they would not prove that it came from the technician. I believe their operation is meant to charge premiums service fees and never cover any significant repairs. Their customer service is designed to make the customer stop calling due to long wait times and the hassle they put the customer through.

Once I put the heating pump which is the emergency heat and the switch on the regular heat, it was throwing cool air. When you have a heating pump, you have to switch it to emergency so then it comes out warm because the temperature is very low. I turned it to emergency, and it was still coming out cold. So I called AHS and they sent a contractor to come and check it because we weren’t having any heat. I had to wait like a couple of days.

The first contractor they sent told me they weren’t going to come until the following week. I told them I can’t wait that long and it’s going to be cold in the weekend. AHS sent me somebody else and they were really good. The contractor was excellent. He knew what he was doing, was friendly and did his job. He didn't ignore us if we asked a question. He and I were under the assumption that American Home Shield was covering everything, so he fixed the problem, but the following week, we got a call saying that it was not covered. Another problem was with PK Plumbing who installed the water heater. They were supposed to apply for a permit in the city hall and I realized that there was no paperwork. I reached out to American Home Shield and they did not want to really talk to me about anything. They say to call the company and to pay them the $150 or 200 that I owed them for service calls, and the calls were not even completed. So they mismarked my claim and a plumbing contractor came out. I went without hot water in the winter time for 10 days but in the end, my service box got replaced and the electrical contractor did a great job.

American Home Shield should hire people and quit using the robots. That would’ve prevented the problem of them calling my claim as a plumbing issue when it was really an electrical issue. The other problem is you can't report the claim and you can't even talk to anybody about it. I know maintenance so it's not a problem for me, but for people who don’t have that background knowledge they can’t ask a question to anybody without having to pay the 75 dollar service fee which is not right. They need to have a human interface so they can have a human index to tell them as to what the problem is, so that they can apply it to the right contractor.

However, by the end of the day, the hot water was back on. So I called before the contractor came out and canceled the service. We've had American Home Shield for six years now and it’s very valuable. My husband and I are an older couple and we appreciate AHS for doing their thing.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for a long time now and it is easier to navigate online than it is to get through on the phone. Each time I've called on the phone, I had to wait an hour. In one case, I got to a number then they directed me to another number which put me in another line which was even longer. My recent claim was for my washing machine and it was time-consuming. There were two technicians who came out. The first one supposedly fixed it. It was good for a week or so and then it started leaking again. And that's when from the same firm, another technician came out and said it was not reparable.

After that, we were without a washing machine for about five weeks or so. The technician reported the findings to American Home Shield. And then, I contacted American Home Shield to see where we would be going from there, especially about getting a new machine. I had to play around with that for a while, checking out machines and not really getting a good explanation about how they arrived at the amount of money that they were willing to give me toward the cost of a new machine. But they ordered the machine and it came within a week.

The first one was a GE washing machine and it was unacceptable. We know friends who have had them and the GE was totally unreliable. So, we wanted to try to get Maytag. We went to look at several stores to see what kind of machines my wife would like and we saw a Whirlpool so we wound up getting the Whirlpool. And as it turns out, I don't know how this happened, but the retail price that American Home Shield quoted for both of them was the exact same amount of money, for both the Maytag and the Whirlpool. That's what they were putting toward the cost of the machine which was $649. I had to pay $236. But the thing was, they may have been basing what they pay on an older machine and what it might have cost back when it was first purchased rather than just comparable machines. I never did get a good explanation about how they arrived at the amount of money that they were willing to include.

We filed a claim online to AHS for our refrigerator that kept going on and off. There was a delay in getting the contractor to come out and it took almost a week for them to come. When the contractor came to try to fix the refrigerator, they didn’t think they would be able to so they submitted the claim for a replacement. They called Thursday approving the claim and said it would take about two weeks for the check to arrive. AHS needs to speed up a little bit, but they are definitely worth it.

I got American Home Shield when I purchased my home and I've had it for over three years. I've also purchased a policy for my mother's home. During my first year, I thought the service was okay but I'm very disappointed with the service at this point. In my home, I had an older air conditioning system and it was leaking Freon. They just kept sending guys out to put Freon in it, but the Freon would just leak out again. Finally, one guy came and he snooped the coils. He said that both coils upstairs and downstairs were leaking and needed some huge amount of Freon.

At that point, it's required by law that I change the coils. However, they fired that guy and lost the paperwork. And they have no record of that paperwork. I have that paperwork but they don’t. They sent another guy out and he said that they can repair those coils. Then he put a little bit of Freon in the AC. Then they said, they will put in the coils, but they won't buy the coils that belong to my unit. They were going to buy cheaper coils, retrofit them, then charge me $1000. Those ACs were all old machines and new machines are really needed to be put in. I went ahead and I paid to have new equipment put in upstairs and downstairs. They were going to cash me out and give me $800, but I asked the lady about the one upstairs.

I'm going to send them the information where the company that they fired said that the machines were no good, and I need to follow-up. Also, I would really like to be paid for both machines. So they were very deceptive and I haven't settled this yet. But I'm still with them because I just recently had a positive experience where AHS sent someone out and fixed a couple of plumbing issues. However, when I look at the math, I'm spending a lot more money than I'm getting in insurance.

My mother also had an air conditioning problem. The guy called and said that he was going to be there at 4 o'clock, but he didn’t come. My mom is 80 and he wanted to come after dark at 9 PM. My mom refused and couldn't get anyone out there. Finally, she had me cancel the service and had her normal AC guy come out. He replaced all the units.

Previously, I had registered for a plumbing problem, but the guy never came out until I finally canceled. When you register, you have to pay in advance before they'll come out and I don't know if I even got my 75 bucks back. It's only good insurance if the repairs are small, but whenever it becomes meaningful, they back out of it. If one has a big problem, they're going to find a loophole and get out of it. If it's going to cost them more than a couple hundred bucks, they're very dishonest. I would not recommend AHS unless you are getting it as part of a home purchase and you are uncertain about the equipment. It would at least give you a chance for the first year.

We first turned our claim in for our stove last December 31 and we are still waiting on a repair. American Home Shield keeps putting us off. I called twice and told them to have a supervisor call me because nobody else gives me anything other than a first name or a number. They refuse to give me a supervisor. I waited on hold on the line for two and a half hours to be told that somebody would call me in 48 hours, again a supervisor and again nothing. They finally said they were going to replace our stove but they have not given us an amount to use and every time, it was 48 hours so it will be 48 hours for them to look for parts.

I called back and they told me it would take seven to nine days for them to look at parts, so I waited. Two days ago, they said they were still looking for the part. When I complained, they finally came back and told us that they would send an email in 48 hours and I’d be able to look for a stove. I received the email asking what kind of stove I had, but they should know that as they came to repair it. I filled that out yesterday and still nothing. And after the person came out to repair it, it took a week before they talked to me about it because they said the company did not turn the stuff in. When the company finally turned it in, it was 48 hours, seven to nine days, 48 hours, and not one day did a supervisor call me.

I feel like they were laughing at me and waiting for me to purchase one. It’s terrible because we are spending all this time without a stove. We can’t cook and it’s also terrible weather so we couldn’t get out of the house for two days. We are just waiting and I’m not going to call again because it’s another 48 hours every time. American Home Shield has gone up over the years on the payments so it’s frustrating and terrible. It’s been a really poor experience right now and I’m not happy.

AHS was going to repair my air conditioning, but it was old so it was best to get a new one. But then they discovered that the electric panel had been arcing and could cause a fire. That was the biggest expense that Home Shield provided. If I didn't have a problem with the air conditioner and heating system, I never would have known it. They replaced the electrical panel for me. The guy that was putting my air conditioner in submitted the claim online. AHS had a very reputable electrical company come and work on it. The two gentlemen were here most of the day and they did a very professional job. The guy that did the air conditioning part of it and then the electrical company that AHS hired out of Fort Smith were very good.

Now, the air conditioner performs great. My house is very warm and I haven’t had any more trouble with that electrical panel. I’m glad that through research, they found the problem and they were able to help me replace the electric panel since it was dangerous. I’m a retired firefighter and I know what electrical fires can do to a house. AHS was very helpful and their insurance helped me out. Overall, it was a great experience.

I have had American Home Shield for four years now, and I recently had a plumbing claim for my hot water heater. It had the pilot light out and the techinician said a piece was missing on the bottom where it keeps the dirt out. And he couldn’t turn it on because it would be a danger. So he just struck the power line. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they could send somebody out, but I wouldn't have hot water for a day or two. So I just went ahead and told the technician to put one in. And I paid $1,300 outright.

What I didn't realize at that time was that the piece was still out there, probably taken off and was left on some shelf in the garage. I saved it, but I didn’t have him come back anymore. Everything was fine since the repair. American Home Shield had also sent someone to fix my ice maker, but the person who sent didn't fix it. So they sent another one who took care of it. Also, one of our commodes had something fall in it. It was slowly draining and sometimes it wouldn't even flush. I called it back about 15 minutes and someone was sent out the next day. And then he fixed it within 10 minutes that he was here. I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend and I just renewed my warranty this month. But there's a long wait time to get a customer rep when you call them, so I use the computer instead.

I just got the service with AHS in August and it has been a little rocky. When I called about my heat pump, they sent someone out who took a look at it but the contractor said that they were not qualified to work on that type of unit. I was then told that somebody else would call me within 24 hours to reschedule. But nobody did, so I had to go back into the cue and get somebody else out. When I did that, they assigned it to the same contractor who already told me that they weren't licensed to work on my unit. So I had to go back in the queue and call again. It was not easy to get through their lines. The other day, when I was trying to call, it was a two-hour wait. Once I finally got through to someone and told them what the issue was, the contractor ended up having to call them back to tell them not to send the same people out. So they sent somebody else out and it worked out fine. Later, I had a couple of other claims and they all worked out fine.

When my sump pump was not working, AHS got me a plumber to get in touch with. I scheduled an appointment and told him exactly what was happening to it. After he got there, he said the pipe was frozen and that that would not be covered by the warranty. He also said that I would have to pay him directly for $187 that day for a temporary fix. I agreed to that but he didn’t do a very good job. He cut the line above ground and had it running out to my patio to drain but he didn’t run it all the way out to the patio. He left it on the bed and now there are dirt and roots everywhere. Plus, my TV is not working in the kitchen because right where he was working was part of my cable. Then he said he wouldn't be back out until March. So I got this big mess in my backyard until March and when he comes back, it'd cost me twice as much to reattach with a new pipe. I agreed to that because I had no choice at that point.

I looked at my contract with AHS and I didn’t see that the work was not covered anywhere other than roots. Then I saw their flashing disclaimer, “Frozen pipes are not covered.” I was not happy about it but I accepted it. Then I got a notification that AHS was going to charge me the $100 service charge. That is not okay because I had to pay the contractor directly. I talked with them and their rep put that payment on hold. Then she said that someone would be calling me within 24 to 48 hours, but nobody called.

So I called AHS again on Monday and the person I spoke with said that she looked at the file and the notes, and apparently, the person that originally took my call had not properly done the paperwork, so my request to have a manager call me never occurred. She assured me that she would do the paperwork correctly and that a manager would indeed be getting back with me within 48 hours again. The charge was still there, though, and when she looked at it, she said that the hold had been put on it but wasn't released on the charge. After that, someone from AHS called me. I thought it was the manager calling but she said that she wasn't. She that that she was calling for a different purpose but that she'd follow up to make sure that they did. She was supposed to call me back Monday afternoon at 1:00, but she didn’t.

Overall, I'm not happy with American Home Shield’s business practice. They're charging me a $100 service fee for a work they did not cover and I had to pay the other company directly. I didn’t agree with that but I went ahead and did it. I would discontinue using them if that continues. I just need somebody to do their job and call me for the things that they're willing to do.

AHS does everything for us and we don't have to do any paperwork. It's brilliant and I tell my friends to get their warranty. When we have a claim, we'd give AHS a call, then they send us an email telling us which contractor would be coming out. Then the contractor would contact us and make an appointment. When they come out, they normally give us a quote. But it depends on the contractor and the kind of claim we have. We usually pay $75 but if it's a Freon problem on the air conditioning unit, sometimes we have to pay more on top of that amount. On the day of the appointment, the techs would also give us a call saying they are on their way. Recently, there was a problem with our compact dust, so we called AHS. They sent somebody out and that went great. It took 10 days for them to get the part they needed, but when they got it, they came back and did the repair straight away.

When the same company came back out, they said that the system burned up. We were out of heat during the cold snap that we had it going to East Coast for about 10 days.

AHS should have something during holidays and hours off. It's a little cumbersome to talk to somebody when I call into the system. I just can’t go online and follow the prompt saying hit 1 for heating element or 3 for your refrigerator. They got to have somebody to talk to. Even though they responded very well and did all the claim stuff with the company who came out to fix the unit, they still need to have some more people available because accidents or issues don't happen just Monday through Friday.

Our double-decker washing machine was banging and making a lot of noise. I called American Home Shield via phone to submit the claim and let them know that whoever would come out needed to undo the screws on the bottom of the sliding doors because they were overlapping in front of the washer-dryer for about six inches. Their first response was that I was responsible for that but I said it was not something I could physically do because I had knee surgery. I was asking them, not just for good service, but for compassion. If I had a contractor I would not have American Home Shield. But the first company said they were not going to do it. They left me a voice message and sent an email saying they were cancelling before even talking with me. I couldn't deal with it right then. I was dealing with healing my knee and I needed to pay attention to my movements and being on crutches.

So after my surgery I just let it go. And then into December I decided to try again and when I called I got another through American Home Shield to renew my membership for 2018. When I called about the renewal the person I spoke with was terrific. He did a great job. He used to work in service and now he is in sales. Once we agreed on the price for next year I let him know that I was having a challenge because they promised the vendor access and I couldn't provide that. So he went down the hall to service and talked to one of his supervisors. Then he said they were going to help me out with it. They were going to get me another company and make sure that they can help me. We also did our transaction with my credit card to sign up for another year of American Home Shield.

Then the supervisor from the other company called me within a few hours and was very understanding. I told him what was happening and he said he was going to have to send two guys out because I made it clear the washer-dryer was a double-decker. Both the guys were terrific. They were very polite and customer service oriented. They listened well and asked good questions. They did all the things that I teach when I teach customer service.

They helped each other to move the unit out and I saw one of the guys took off the front of the washing machine and say I needed another belt. I said that I hope that was it because it sure was making a lot of noise. They said they've got that taken care of and they went ahead and checked the dryer. There was too much lint that had built up over a year. I clean it every time but it had built up into the tubing that goes outside so they cleaned that out. It was the dryer and things gets hotter and hotter because I was losing some of the heat. I was really pleased with them.

And it was a problem with something that was frozen over but at the same time, the weather stripping that keeps all the cold air in the fridge is coming off. It was already replaced one time by AHS. The gentleman who came over said he is going to order the weather strippings again. Meanwhile, he fixed up the frozen part of the fridge. Here we are in January and I still can't get this rectified. This is just an outstanding case that's been a problem.

Also, we had a dishwasher issue. AHS has sent people five or six times and for the amount that they probably spent, we could have gotten a new dishwasher and eventually did. We've used AHS and been with them for about 10 or 12 years. The wait on the phone line is absurd but I still like the company. I like their system. I just get a little frustrated when I need something rectified. It's very hard to get through. It's very dependent upon who comes, whether the job gets done or not. And also, the follow through is pretty awful.

I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield for heating issues. The gentleman gave us a quote for a new furnace. However, he had to come back four times. It was for ordering the part, assessing the item, coming back and installing it, and then coming back to check on it. And we had to pay the deductible each time they came out. Nonetheless, AHS was very satisfactory and their reps were pleasant to deal with. It wasn't difficult at all once we knew where to go. We've been considering adding on appliances to the plan. My real estate agent thought that she got us on an all-inclusive plan, but apparently, some of the appliances aren't included. AHS is beneficial and helpful for us. However, having to pay a different deductible each time they come would be challenging. But other than that, it was a great service and it saved us money. I have recommended them.

They have a long wait for whichever day or time and it’s always an hour plus of waiting. However, they’re trying to resolve that. Also, the contractors follow the procedures and guidelines that they were given by AHS.

Our water heater broke down a couple of months ago. I called American Home Shield to have it replaced. They were initially okay but I think it took longer than I liked. There was miscommunication on one of the operators. The service man came in and he explained that the water heater needs to be replaced. I wasn't home. He told my wife what needs to be done. He said it needs to be brought to code so that would cost extra money. I called to double-check on that. I said, “Well, if I want to do it myself, what is the procedure?” They said, “Well, we'll pay you X amount based on what we pay.” So I said, “No. Go ahead and do it. I just want to make sure this guy wasn't trying to upsell me anything.” Then she scheduled based on, “I'll be doing it.” When they did not respond, I called back. That took an extra two to three days, which means we had no hot water for about five days. Other than that, all is fine. I would still recommend AHS to others.

They fixed the oven and it is now back like new. AHS has been very good every time we had to use this company. We’re going to renew with them as they are worth the money.

The AHS reps are good and the contractors that they send have been amazing. On the other hand, I'm on hold for an hour and 45 minutes if I have any question. I've had to do that three to four times because they don’t have enough people answering their phone for customer service and it happens every single time. I simply put my phone on speaker phone and go about my business. They want customers to put their claims online and they don’t give the option to leave my number and them calling me back.

Also, there were a couple of times when I had somebody come out and they didn’t have the stuff that they needed. I had a plumbing issue one time that was pretty straightforward and the contractor did not know what he needed so, they had to come back. Another situation was my refrigerator kept going out. The technician said that he couldn't fix it and then AHS said they would send out his boss and I told them that he was the boss. It was inconvenient that the contractor had to come out numerous times before AHS said they would replace it.

I had also called AHS to repair my fireplace so, I went online and put it in as a 'furnace' because that was all I had my options for. I don’t know if it's considered a furnace, but it is gas and there's fire. I'll ask the contractor when I'm called to set up my appointment because I don't want to wait an hour and 45 minutes just to ask. Overall, having AHS is a good service to have and I've recommended them, but I've warned my friends that if they need to talk to anyone from AHS, it won't be anytime soon.

I usually submit my claim with American Home Shield online because it’s more convenient and I can get it submitted quickly. My most recent claim was for my water heater’s pilot light. The contractors that come out have been good for the most part. There have been a couple of instances where I wasn't 100% satisfied. But in this last instance, I definitely was. When there's been an issue, American Home Shield, for the most part, has been pretty responsive in helping me get the resolution quickly. There was one instance when they had to come back for an air conditioning unit and it turned out that it was an equipment issue. So, the equipment had to be replaced.

There hasn't been a major issue at any given time and I would certainly not go without having some form of a warranty coverage like AHS in an older home so it serves a valid purpose. I would certainly recommend giving them a chance. There are few other home warranty companies out there that I'm aware of and we've been with AHS for quite a while. There's a reason we've stayed so we're able to recommend them without any hesitation.

My heat pump unit started smoking, so I turned it off and called American Home Shield. When the repair guy came, he said that it was leaking carbon monoxide into the house and that it needed to be replaced. Currently, my dog is in the hospital and I'm waiting for the results of my blood tests to come back. It was not a good experience.

That repair guy also said that American Home Shield would find the cheapest unit that they could get to put in and that he could guarantee me that within the first year it would break down and that I would be calling him out to repair it and I would be all sorts of frustrated. He offered to sell me one at a discounted price and I really felt that I was getting a con job. This guy was telling me stuff that the company didn’t want him to say. I was not cool with that. After he left, I had a friend call back and go through the automated service for me and got somebody else to come out because I really didn’t know. They basically said the same thing but they didn’t tell me things and sell me something else.

I was really glad that I got such quick service and I will be really happy when I finally get it replaced. Somebody called though and left a message on my phone earlier this afternoon saying that they were going to charge me $250 to use a crane to put the new unit into its seat. They won't need to do that because my neighbor is more than willing to move his vehicle so that we can do it without the crane. I am very satisfied with my AHS experience overall.

My air conditioner was freezing up. I went online, submitted my claim, and Home Shield told me that I should be contacted within 24 to 48 hours by one of their companies to fix it. They called and said they set up an appointment, and it went smooth. The contractors came out and diagnosed the problem. It was a heater coil and the unit wasn't detecting that it was cold outside, so it wasn't defrosting it. The contractors ordered the parts and when the parts came in, they came back out, fixed it, and so far, it's been working pretty good.

The only problem I had was that Home Shield didn't send the same contractors that's familiar with the unit to do the job. I had a previous problem with my air conditioning and they sent out another company. If they send a company out to do something and I have a request for the same problem, send the same company out instead of having someone come out to start from scratch. Also, they went up $10 on my account and I don't know why. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. They're good. I give them a call, and I get a response within 24 to 48 hours. When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, it is always online. I don't ever call them on the phone because it's a guarantee that I might be on hold for one hour or longer. And while it is easier to do it online, they should definitely make some changes. As their policy is right now, if you have multiple kitchen appliances that have issues, they can all go on the same claim. But, you can only make a claim on one of them online. And then, when the technician gets to you, they have to add those other items to the claim. If it's something like minor, they could do it when they're here. It could be something that they have on their truck, and then they can go ahead and fix it. But instead, they have to submit a claim for them to come back the second time to do it.

So far, the appliance technician sent by American Home Shield has been from the same company. And he's awesome and friendly and does a thorough job. But, the very first guy that came out was terrible. And then, when I called back to do the claim, it was just ridiculous. The lady even hung up so it was just a bad problem. So, I had to make another claim and had to sit on hold with American Home Shield for an hour. Then, they had somebody come out. And for the longest time, they charge me another $75. They kept saying I was behind $75 when it was the same claim with a different company.

Recently, though, they repaired my fridge. And the wait time to turn around and get it fixed took a long time. They have to order stuff and then come back. And I went 10 days without a refrigerator. Other than the wait time, American Home Shield's willingness to do things and not question and cause an issue for the client is great. I'm a real estate agent and I actually sell the same warranty that I use to every buyer. And I tell them that with a new or resell home, they'll never really know. Something could be working at the time of inspection. But within a couple of months, it could go out. And everyone I've ever had sold the warranty has been very satisfied.

American Home Shield covers everything from washing machine to the dryer to plumbing and to garage door openers. And a lot of those home warranty companies out there don't or they give customers a massive runaround and have a very large service fee deductible that their customers have to pay. American Home Shield isn't like that. While they're much more expensive than the majority of the home warranty companies out there, they're worth it. And once the one year warranty runs out, buyers have the option to pay monthly like I do.

Then the claim got elevated within 24 hours and the technician was knowledgeable on what needed to be done, and he fixed it. The first time they came out, I had to tell them to come back out. There was something else that was going on with it. It had something to do with the thermostat. Once they figured all that out, it was fine and we haven't had any problem since after that. Plus, the person that came out helped.

They showed us how we should be able to keep our heat at a certain temperature for up and downstairs by using the lever that we have on the outside, and we didn’t know we had that in the house. So, that helped us now and the whole house is heated up equally. I'll recommend American Home Shield to others and if they're homeowners, I always suggest that they go with American Home Shield.

I have two claims with American Home Shield lately on different apartments. In one of them, the service was really good, but there was a problem on the other one. They took the payment in December. I pay them quarterly, and I saw it was up to date because we always pay. When I requested for service, they said my policy was cancelled. I asked why they took the payment if the policy was cancelled. And they sent me to three different departments and nobody helped me. But I haven't had time to call and fight with the company about what they did. I also had to pay for somebody else to do the repairs for me.

Also, I wanted to renew and I already told them that I wanted to transfer the policy to my daughter-in-law because she's living in the apartment now and she will not pay for the policy. But they said that I didn’t say anything and they don’t have any information. I've always had excellent service and I never had complaints with the company until this latest bad experience that I had with them.

Most of the technicians that they've sent out gave me a good service. The only thing is they took two months to give me a new water heater. And when they sent the water heater, it was the wrong one, but then they sent the correct one. And after a month, the water heater became defective. I was sleeping one day in the apartment when my son asked me what happened in the apartment because it was all flooded. I had to shut out the water. And then, when the men from AHS came, they told me that the water heater was defective.

In the meantime, I'm stuck because I have to change the floor in three bedrooms and the salon. And AHS said they will replace the water heater but then, they said they don’t cover defective ones. I'm waiting for the morning so I can buy the water heater and call them to install it. The defective water heater is not their problem but the problem that I’m having is because of it. But other than those, the AHS people are always very nice on the telephone and very helpful whenever I call. I have been with AHS for several years and I've been very happy with their service. And I will recommend the company, too.

American Home Shield is a good policy to have. We had a couple of things done and all of their contractors have been very professional. Our most recent claim with them was for the dishwasher with an electronic board that was not working. They assigned one of their contractors to come out. The board was an obsolete part so they said they had to replace the dishwasher.

I got an email indicating that the dishwasher had to be replaced including the options. With Option A they presented the dishwasher that they would provide if we will buy it and have a contractor come out. Option B was to go out and find our own dishwasher and AHS would pay up to the same amount that they would’ve on the dishwasher that they were going to provide under their plan but we would still install it. And then Option C was to take the lump sum number and then go out and purchase our own dishwasher but we have to have it installed. I took option C because I wanted to get the dishwasher that matches the appliances that I had, but it would cost a bit more than what AHS was allowing. It was a KitchenAid brand. I took the lump sum price, put that towards the dishwasher and then had it install myself.

Having AHS is convenient since you don’t have to worry about finding contractors to come and do work. AHS does this naturally, so I would think they would have done their due diligence and these contractors that they select to do their work would have to meet a certain standard for sure. But the downside is you’re one party away from being involved in that. So for less savvy homeowners who don’t know how to shop contractors or specialists in the various fields, that could be very difficult. Also sometimes you never know what you’re going to get. AHS is sometimes not perfect as well since it's been lagging communication in trying to get things scheduled a bit.

My experience with American Home Shield hasn’t been very good. There are things that are covered according to the contract, but when contractors get out here they'll say they have to call AHS and AHS would say it’s not covered. When I talk to their employees and tell them what the contract says, they pass the buck between the plumber and AHS, and I'm in between. In the meantime, I don't get any benefit out of it. Plus, the wait periods are unbelievable. It was 54 minutes before I talked to a live individual the last time I called. That's not acceptable.

One of the contractors who came out was Loyalty. Loyalty sent a plumber out when the water tank was running. It was the type of thing that I'd normally have replaced myself. The plumber put in a new thing into the toilet and then he told me I needed a new handle. So, he went out to his car, and tried the handle but it didn't work. He told me he didn't have the right handle and he will come back with it. I asked him when he is coming back and told me in a couple of days. This was on a Friday, so I could understand that he wouldn't be back until Monday. Two weeks later, I called AHS and told them the guy didn't come back. The rep then told me that the plumber didn't write on the report that he was going to replace the handle. He didn't give me a copy so I can't prove that he said that he was going to be back. I asked the rep to call the plumber and ask him about it.

So AHS called them and then they told me that the plumber said that there was nothing wrong with the toilet, so he won't come out. I told them I still need a handle and they said, "Well, we'll charge you $100 if that isn't the problem." I told them that was fair, so they sent out another company and the guy was very nice. He looked at it and said I need a collar handle. He went out to his truck, came back and replaced the handle. The next time I called, AHS recommended Loyalty again. And every time, it was Loyalty, so I told AHS that the plumber won't even come out to the house.

When I had a stoppage, I put in a request and AHS sent out the same company that fixed the handle, but it was a different plumber. He was an hour late. They said between noon and 3:00, and he didn't get here until 4:00, and he's anxious to get off work. He told me that he was going to fix the hose bibb, but it was on the outside, so it was not covered. I told him it says in the contract it is covered. He said, "Well, it's outside your home.” And I replied, "Yeah, but it comes from the inside of the house." He said, "They won't cover it, but I'll fix it anyway." So, he fixed it. The other thing was the stoppage and he told that I have to have an outside access to the shower. But it doesn't say anything in the contract that I have to have that. He then said I have to do it because I have a trap in there. I told him that he should put that in his report that that's the reason that American Home Shield refused.

He looked at me and said that he can't put in there that there is a trap without tearing the whole thing up. But he just told me there is a trap. We could go downstairs, look up and we can see it. But he said it didn't make any difference, and they refused it because there's no outside access. On any of our toilets, I don't have an outside access to plumbing. There's nothing in the contract that says I have to have it. I've got one other rental place and I was considering getting AHS. But I'll be damned if I will if they don't cover anything. One of the plumbers said that he got a lot of complaints about AHS. So I don’t have plans of renewing.

The only reason I signed up in the first place was because AHS was doing a lot of television advertising and I thought that they must be a good company. At one point I asked the rep that I talked with to let me speak with one of the supervisors and I was told that all their supervisors were in meetings. I asked if they were working from home because they ask for my zip code and that's a typical home type of thing. The person said, "Oh, no. We don't work from home." And then I asked for somebody who has more authority than him and he said, "They're all in the meetings," which tells me that they must be working from home. I was in business for many, many years. There's always somebody in charge.

The first time I had problems with the front loader washer was when the part that goes around wasn’t turning. I submit claims by phone but it’s impossible to talk to a live person. They just ask what’s the problem and the name of the appliance, and they always line me up with someone. Before I get off the phone, they send me an email and they tell me who’s supposed to come out, and if I don’t hear from them within 24 hours, I give them a call. But they always called me, and they are really nice about everything. American Home Shield is really good about getting somebody out, and I called on a Sunday. However, the company that came out the first time didn’t tighten up something, so I called American Home Shield again and they sent out a different contractor who fixed everything.

Then I had another problem with what the first person did, so someone came out yesterday and fixed that, and he said I have a whole new washer now. I got it fixed pretty quick and since the repair, the washer has always been good. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to everybody that owns a home. You don’t have to worry as long as you have the warranty because if something breaks down, they’re on it. I’m 70 years old and I can really sleep at night without worrying about where to get the money to fix the furnace if it goes out. I have to pay a service call, but it’s nothing compared to coming out with $4,000 and $5,000 at one time. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends.

I was happy that he knew the problem when he came. He had come in with the right panel that he had to put and we can now use the range. I was confused when I started because most of my friends said that having a home warranty is not needed. If there's anything that has to be fixed, I can fix it on my own and not unnecessarily pay $500 or $600 a year, but I feel that there is a peace of mind in having one. I'm not worried how I would fix it or how much money I have to invest that's why I'm going with it. Otherwise, I know most of the times, I will not need it and will not want to use it. I don't want things breaking.

We had a toilet that was running non-stop and we couldn’t seem to fix it ourselves. We filed a claim for it online and the AHS website navigation was pretty easy. The plumber who came was very professional and efficient. There were old guts inside the toilet and he had to replace those. He fixed the problem in the end. AHS has been very useful for us the first two years in our home and we've had a lot of experiences. We’ve had one experience with AHS though that wasn’t so good. The AC company they sent out didn’t diagnose the issue correctly and we had to have another company come out and we ended up paying that company a lot of money to fix it and do it correctly. But AHS gave us a small amount to compensate for it.

It went downhill from there. I never had a problem with American Home Shield and I sell it all the time. And even if it takes a long time for anybody to answer the phone, they get the job done but not for this one. Still, American Home Shield is a fantastic company and I love them.

We needed our washer replaced. The bearings were bad. I always submit a claim online because it took too long on hold when I call it in. When AHS showed up, they said there were five or six parts that were broken inside so they couldn’t repair it but they ended up coming early and they were fast and did a great job. I bought the replacements myself. What they selected would have been nice but it wouldn’t fit under my countertop so there was only one that was short enough to accommodate, so hopefully it’s a good one. I'm thrilled with everything that AHS has done. We’ve been with them for a very long time and had two houses. I recommend them to everybody.

My garbage disposal unit was leaking very heavily and I submitted the claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone. The guy that got here was very professional, friendly and on time. He explained what the problem was. We've lived here for about eight years so he decided that it was not fixable and replaced it with a new one. He put a brand new one in there, and he was in and out in a good time. It's totally fixed and I haven't had any more problems. One time though someone came out to work on my clothes dryer and he didn't speak and understand English very well. We got through the job but it was just a little annoying with him not understanding what I was saying and there wasn't a lot of communication. But we've used American Home Shield about five times over the years and I had nothing really to complain about as I had good response and professional service from them. I would recommend them.

I made an online service request on Jan 10th for a leaky faucet. H&H Plumbing came the next day. When I showed the serviceman where the leak was he stated that it looked like I needed a new faucet. He said that he would have to call it in. He went to his truck to make the call and returned saying he couldn’t help me because the faucet was not part of my contract. He said there was no charge and then left. Two weeks later I discover that AHS deducted $75 from my account! When I called AHS I was told whether or not the serviceman does anything I still have to pay the service charge! I’ve been with AHS for 12 years and anytime the vendor comes out to fix something, I’ve paid the vendor directly for the service fee, not AHS. I pay AHS a monthly fee of $54.68. Service fees have always been paid to the vendor. Please beware that AHS will charge you whether service is rendered or not! I will never do an online submission with them again.

My microwave broke in my rental home. A serviceman was dispatched... Cost $75. He deems the microwave needs to be replaced. AHS then request I take the measurements! Why didn't the serviceman take them? My tenants give me the measurements, and a unit is ordered. When it comes the tenants measure wrong on the height by 1/2 inch, so we had to return it. They charged me $69 for the restocking fee! This could have been avoided, had they had the repairman measure or they send someone to measure! I then call them and tell them just deduct the fee and send me money so I can buy a unit. The rep says no problem. Three weeks go by and nothing.

I call and the woman says,"You need to pay the $69 before our accounting can cut you a check!" What am I, a mind reader? No one ever send me any communication on this, so here it is January 25 and I have been without a microwave since November 13! Do yourself a favor and just put your monthly fee aside and if something goes wrong you can just use that fund to take care of it. This insurance is not worth it, neither is the time you'll wait on hold! I think they only have a handful of employees and they are not helpful! I am out $134 and still don't have a microwave. They are only sending me $200 for a microwave that was well over $600. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I've had American Home Shield for over 20 years. I pay $57.00 per month and then you pay $75.00 if you ever use them. Thats all fine. Electrical outlet garbage disposal, anything simple is easy except actually calling to schedule an appointment. I dont believe in the last 3 years I have ever called and I get the recording, "It's our busy time of day." It's always busy. Be prepared to wait 1/2 hour to 1 hour. However if you have a major appliance air conditioner, refrigerator, washer you need to be prepared to buy a new one. My AC went out Wednesday Night. Live in Texas we were in the hottest time of summer. Called Thursday morning and were told someone will be out on Friday. They came out they tried to seal coils. Worked for several hours and broke. Called Friday afternoon and am I kidding its Friday afternoon we cant do anything before Monday.

Sorry. My fault thats after being on the phone for 2 hours inside house is 90 degrees 100 % humidity. They came back out on Monday tried to fix again. Guess what? Broke again. Called out 2 more people independent that I paid for. "Sir your system is 18 years old. It's broken." Back on with American Home Shield. By the way if they have any supervisors you will never talk to them. They are not allowed to actually speak to people. I'll send you to escalation department. They cant make a decision. We're now in a hotel. It's been a week. They said they would pay for 2 nights. Bottom line I had to buy a new unit almost $9,000.00, they never paid for hotel. Said they would never have told me that. Guess I'm the liar. I've also bought a new refrigerator. Same story. If you can wait a week for them to try everything before they replace. Food is spoiled. You have a ice chest.

Same story with washer. Again after everything has been tried and you are now doing laundry at the laundromat. Since you have a family had to buy a new one. Every repairman that comes to your house will tell you before they replace anything they are actually hoping for a miracle. This is not I bought a house and have your service for a year. This is after having service for 20 years appliances that are old and broken. Forget the water heater. Unless you have it drained every 6 months you screwed up.

Read the contract. If by some miracle they replace an appliance it will be the lowest line and lowest cost. You will still pay to upgrade to something that is not bottom of the line. Thats ok. I'll pay the difference. I understand but the system is set up so you dont get paid for anything unless youre got a week or two call several times except 1 hour every time you call and get attitude that you would even ask and above all they have these huge centers all these representatives but you will never never never find a supervisor. I still have there service I guess I am the stupid one

The contractor that came out was very nice and very informative. He was knowledgeable about our products and even about the process with American Home Shield or filing a claim. He could guess which ones probably would be replaced and which ones would probably be fixed because he has been in the business for a while. So, he knows how old certain things are and if he will be able to find them or not.

Now, my dishwasher works fine. For items that were replaced, as far as American Home Shield is concerned, it went well. I just had to go buy a new refrigerator and then pick a new microwave. Everything went smoothly. I got the money quicker than I thought. I have recommended American Home Shield. It is worth it to have.

One of the fan motors in the heating unit went out. I tried to submit the claim with a representative at American Home Shield but the hold time was three and a half hours and I got disconnected half way through it. It really pissed me off and I was very annoyed. The wait time was crazy although I’m sure they were busy with everybody’s heater going out or needing repairs for frozen pipes. But what annoyed me is that there was no way to request a callback. If you get disconnected like I did after three and a half hours into the phone call, you start back at the very end of the key hours when you call back. I tried to call the contractor company direct because they’ve been out the month before and they did a temporary fix. They said, “If it goes out again within 60 days, give us a callback. There’s no additional charge, we’ll come back out.” They came back out and fixed it.

I was told to go online to file a claim so I did but I filed it wrong. I filed it as a new claim instead. I didn’t see the box there that you could check to file a secondary claim so they gave it to another person and that’s when I called back. That company called me later that day and said, “Hey, we’ll be out Tuesday to fix it.” I said, “Well, just so you guys know, this is already an existing thing.” And they said, “Oh, we can cancel that but you’re going to have to file another claim.” That’s when I had to get on the phone with American Home Shield and it ended up working out fine. The interactions I had with the contractor was great and they were amazing. They’re great to work with, funny and very professional. They took care of the problem very quickly. They could see that something was about to go, but because of the way that American Home Shield works, they can’t replace it until it goes finely.

They had the part number so I called them and they said, “Okay. We’ll be there Tuesday to fix it.” They brought it and swapped it out. They’re very easy to reach. Unfortunately, you still have to go through the rig and a row, but I know now for the next time on filing a pre-existing claim. I would absolutely recommend American Home Shield to a friend, and in fact, I have.

I had a pool incident and AHS came out and fixed it. Then I had an issue with the pool again and they told me it was the filter but it's not. My wife also had an issue with the washing machine. Something internally is messed up and it ended up messing up a leg in the machine because the leg couldn’t take the pressure and AHS did nothing. They said, “Oh, just put a cleaner in there, some kind of cleaner kit, and clean it. It just needs to be cleaned”. They never fixed it so my AHS expired. In order for me to renew it, they should come and fix my washing machine. If not, I’ll find another warranty company because they did nothing and every time they come out, I get a call fee of $75.

My wife bought the kit and it did nothing, so now I got to put another claim in, and another $75 for the same claim because they told me to clean it and they’ll come back. So, it’s costing me $150, whereas if I called an appliance guy, he might have told me “Give me $100 and I’ll fix it” or "you got to scrap the machine". In addition to that, I put in several service calls and it took about three weeks for them to get there, and they said they called and did this and that, but nobody called me nor my wife. I would tell others to check out other warranty companies before making a decision to choose AHS because they’re not prompt in keeping their word. I got no problems renewing the warranty, but at least, come out and make the repairs.

I've had American Home Shield for 24 years and over the last eight years, the trend that is going on with them is not good. I've got an older house, and had issues with the heating, refrigerator and dishwasher. Now the price keeps going up but they keep having more restrictions. Also, if you want a particular person you've worked with before to come, you have to stay on the phone for at least 30 minutes just to get a person who then tells you to go to their website and that you can request it there. However, you can't request a specific vendor or person on the site. I also have vendors that I never want to work with again and those are the ones that they tend to assign me if I do it online. If I call American Home Shield, I put my phone on speakerphone and listen to their awful music for 30 minutes. Then I go ahead and do my other work using my landline or my computer while I'm waiting for them to pick up the phone.

I'm on Eastern Standard time and if I call at 7:00 AM, particularly on a Sunday, I usually don't have to wait as long. But when the rest of the country wakes up and if it's during the week, then I have to wait longer. American Home Shield's reps are very nice once you get to them. However, they don't have enough people working for them. I've had many of the reps say that I'm the nicest person they have talked to all day. So they got a lot of verbal abuse from people waiting. They also have a thing now where you can either pay the $75 upfront or wait 48 hours until the work is done, which I do. Recently the thermostat on my refrigerator went out. The vendor had to then order the parts through American Home Shield. However, they sent the wrong part to the vendor so it took two weeks for my air conditioning to be fixed.

I had to have the icemaker replaced. Then I had to have the hinge on the washer door replaced and I had to have a water pump replaced from the washer as well. Now, I've got both the washer and the refrigerator fixed.

I'm glad I have that insurance because I have very expensive appliances. I have a $1,800 washer and dryer that I've had for about seven to nine years. Then I have a $2,500 refrigerator that I've had for two years now. As of now, they’ve been doing good. The warranty was no good, so I'm glad I got the Home Shield warranty. I had a good experience with having both appliances fixed and I'd highly recommend AHS. I had First American before and had a very negative incident. My AC went out and I had no heat for three weeks. I called them several times every day without fail and nothing got resolved until I got a hold of the Better Business Bureau. So I discontinued their service. My daughter was with American Home Shield and she recommended them so I went ahead and signed up with them. My experience with AHS has been a lot better. When I had someone from American Home Shield come out for the first time, the tech told me everything he couldn't do. The one thing he said he could do was that he'd be back but he never did. I waited for two months and there was nothing. When I was getting billed for it, I told them that the work hasn't been done and I was not going to pay for anything. So it stank in the beginning, but I finally got the results and that was when I was allowed to make the payments myself.

I have submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone once and it got crazy. I preferred talking with somebody but it was difficult to get a hold of anybody. So I submitted my next claim online because it was a lot faster. I was happy because they called within the time that they promised. They were very responsive and the contractors came, so it was good. But it was one of those things that the contractor had to try to take baby steps with and they're still doing that.

Initially, they thought that the problem was with one item but when they replaced that they found that it was possibly something else so they needed to order that part. This would be their second time trying to get it done as they were trying to get it through the process of elimination and they weren't sure. They were supposed to get back to me about that this week but they didn't. Everything else has been really well and I would recommend American Home Shield. If anything ever happened again, I'd put a stop to them right away, but I've been happy so far.

But then, I have to pay $125 which was supposedly a credit that they could just take out from my next month's bill, but it's still showing. Since they're trying to make me pay every month and not just take the credit out, I've talked to a lot of people from AHS. They said I have to pay it and I kept telling them no.

Before that, I had submitted a claim because my electricity inside the house wasn't working. The guy sent by American Home Shield did a very good job and helped us out of that. On that experience, it was okay. Then this time, I'm not liking what's going on because when the contractor came, he told me that the part needed for my AC would be ordered and would take about a day or two which was fine. But then, nobody called to do anything. When I finally got to talk to somebody, they said they could come the next day, but I couldn't believe it took about a week. I have a three-year-old fan and we had passed a day that went down to 20 and we had no heater. And then now that it's hot, we have a heater with all the fans on because we don't have AC. It didn't make any sense.

Overall, American Home Shield should seek and hire better people so they could go to our home and do what they got to do since they say they're prepared. I would tell friends about my experience and tell them to look ino AHS, and if they want to go with AHS, they can go with them because a lot of people have a different experience.

I had a plumbing clog and called American Home Shield but couldn’t get through. And so, I went online and submitted it that way. If you call for sales, somebody is right there. But if you call because you need help, you've got to wait and wait. My last claim wasn’t something that they covered because my plumbing line needed a clean-out. I had old lead pipes and the plumber said, "They're not going to pay for this because they're not going to add something that's not already there." So, I had to pay for that myself. There’s nothing wrong with the agents of American Home Shield but I don’t feel like my business is really important. They're just somebody that's doing their job. They do what they say they're going to do and I have no complaints about that. They don’t budge one bit though from what their policy has or does not have. There's no gray area whatsoever.

The submission of claims was quick and I had to set up an account. The contractors have been great. They have always taken care of things promptly. Every now and then, if it's 10 degrees and the furnace goes out, they're going to be busy. But the last time I had that, I called American Home Shield that morning and the guy was out that afternoon. It was taken care of and I was very happy with that. There had been times when they replaced the water heater. It would have been $800 to $1,200 bill for me but it cost me $75. I was glad to have them.

But American Home Shield needs to have more people answering the lines so when somebody calls in with a claim. Also, they need to make whoever they're talking to feel more appreciated as a customer. There are a lot of these home warranty outfits out there. They've got to act within the parameters of their policy. If something is not covered, it's not covered. There might be someone better out there but they've done okay for me and I trust them. I'm glad about the situation.

The only thing is that it doesn’t let you put in any detail to tell the company that’s going to come out. It would be nice if they could add some verbiage, like if we could have said, “Here’s what’s happening…” All it says is it's a plumbing and it’s a faucet issue. The very first thing we used with American Home Shield was for our refrigerator. It took three companies. The first one that came out totally messed up. The second one was set to come out and I called and said, “Now, do you realize what you’re coming for?” And they said, “Oh, we don’t work on those kinds of refrigerators. So, thank goodness, we saved ourselves from coming out.”

The third one who came out said, ”What the first said was totally wrong,” and he fixed it. Here’s the thing, it’s a GE and it’s built-in. There was no way for me to put that. As soon as they assigned someone, I called the contractor and said, “Okay, you know you’re dealing with a built-in Monogram?” “Oh, we don’t work on built-in.” I couldn't put that on the website.

Typically, I will call and say, “Hey, I got to warn you. Here’s what you’re going to be looking for.” The contractor called us that same day and they came out two days later. The contractor was fine but we had to resubmit the claim because he didn’t completely fix it. When you turn off a faucet, your handle stops at a certain point. Our handle just keeps going round and round and it turns it back on and off and on and off. They called and they’re coming back out next week.

Having a home warranty has been good for us because it’s a new house, but I wouldn’t do it again for another year. I'm subject to whoever they send out and I know that at some point, you go, “Okay, I have a trusted plumber.” AMPAM Plumbing doesn’t have the best star rating and they were the ones who came out and has to come back. They were very nice, professional and they’ve called on time but it’s a pretty simple thing of not getting your faucet to stop and shut off.

One of the units of the air conditioner was making noise. The noise was not there normally. I called American Home Shield and their rep was good. The contractor that they’ve sent was really good too but he said that until the unit goes out, he can’t do anything. I’ve had AHS for about 10 years now and having a home warranty is valuable. One time though, we had an air-conditioning unit go out and had a regular air-conditioner guy who knew what the problem was and could get a part in a week but it took American Home Shield over a month to fix. It was not a good experience. AHS is just slow in getting something done and that has been true of pretty much everything we’ve dealt with them.

My refrigerator, the ice maker and the microwave all went at once. I submitted the claim online since I have a very hard time getting through to American Home Shield on the phone. It's at least half an hour's wait. Not only that. They also assign people who don’t call for days. I had two really bad experiences as far as getting people to touch base and saying, “Look. I can’t get there today but I’ll try to get to you in two days. Please let me know.” But they just don’t call.

When the rep assigned the refrigerator person, I didn't even know if they were still in business. But then she got this other guy. He called me and came right out, and what he did for me was incredible. I was without a refrigerator for five days because it happened on a weekend, and he did what he had to do to get the fridge going. Then he said that we needed a part. He let me know that he was ordering it, that it would take a week and that he would be back. Sure enough, he was. He was definitely on the ball.

But the process of calling Home Shield and them assigning is really bad. I live in Fort Pierce and maybe there are not a lot of companies here. But for my air conditioner, the guy they assigned was over an hour and a half away from me. He was definitely going to put me at the end of the line because it's a long drive. He can't make any money driving way over here for an hour and a half and an hour and a half back. They have 24 business hours to respond but that is three days, eight hours a day. I had to call Home Shield and say, "Nobody is coming. What are you going to do?” And I had to do that twice. I was ready to kill my realtor for recommending them to me. But on the positive side, I did get my refrigerator fixed.

We had a water heater go out, so we called American Home Shield to set up a plumber for that particular situation. This one was a little bit different from the past when I have worked with them. I've always had a lot of good luck submitting claims online, but this one was an after-hours call and an emergency situation. I was on hold for over an hour and a half which was not okay, but considering it was an emergency, it needed to be done. Once I got through, the rep was able to get everything set up and got a hold of a technician relatively quickly. Then they got everything scheduled right away.

The technician that came out was wonderful and really friendly. Although I wasn’t there, my husband was there when this was going on and the report I got from him was that they kept him informed of everything. We didn’t know for sure if we'd have to replace the heater, but we appreciated the work that he did. If we had the opportunity to request specific contractors, I'd see if we could get this particular one. The ease of getting my problem taken care of as far as it being pre-paid and built through American Home Shield was nice and convenient but the wait was disappointing. Overall, I would recommend them. I won't let that one particular instance overshadow the service we've had so far.

And then somebody got in touch with me the next morning. The contractor that they sent was great and I really liked him. He had to order something and the issue was resolved in less than a week. I'm happy with AHS but then it's expensive. We also had it years ago with a different house, and I was surprised that they've gone up to $100 on their service call price.

American Home Shield gets the job done. I talk to them when they come and it's a pleasant young man. But for our most recent claim my wife said AHS won't fix our air conditioner if it's outside the home. We set our the thermostat at 76 degrees and it's either hotter than hell or cold as the north pole, and we have to keep resetting it and it's not functioning right. I told my wife if we can't get things like this taken care of, and this is why we're paying for it, we're going to hunt for somebody that will.

AHS gave me a card and every time I call them they tell me that the contract number is no longer valid and they tell me to write down the new one. That's the way they used to do things back in the 18th century when we didn't have automation and modern conveniences. I said, "Why don't you do better than that? Why don't you send me a new card?" That's the way most of the people we do business with do it. They send us a new card with the correct current property number on it. They said they'll send out a card but I'm still waiting for it and I don't know what I have to do to get it. It's a reasonable request to ask them for a new card if they tell me that the number on my card is not right. They should be able to automatically send me a new card and I shouldn't even have to ask them, but I've asked them three times now and I still haven't gotten one. That is a black eye on AHS.

American Home Shield recently solved our plumbing problem and had the interiors replaced. It's working fine now. We had a problem with our heating prior to that and my wife called AHS and a contractor responded to it. The contractor was excellent in every category. If we ever have another problem with it, I'm going to request we get the same company back here. I liked everything about them.

But the first time we ever called American Home Shield, which was a couple of years ago, our experience was terrible that we considered dropping them. Our air conditioner went out in the middle of August and here in Alabama, it's hot. On three different occasions, the company that AHS was using sent out three different technicians but none of them could fix the problem. Finally, somebody came out and it took him three days to fix it. We were without air conditioning for three weeks in 100-degree weather. We used fans 24 hours a day. Despite that experience, we stayed with AHS. This year, the heating went out and they sent that company over here. The young man fixed it in 30 minutes.

Our heater stopped working so we put in a claim, and AHS got a company to come out and fix it. It was really easy to submit a claim. I went online and filled out a form, then they sent me an email to confirm that they received my request. They gave me the name of the company that would be calling me within the hour. It was very informative and what they said would happen did happen. Their website was very user-friendly as well. It was very convenient for me. I was surprised because I was Googling American Home Shield to find the number to call, and I found the place where I could fill out the request. By the time I would’ve dialed the number and waited for someone, my request was already in.

The contractor was onsite for an hour and 10 minutes. He was very knowledgeable about the appliance that he was working with and he even gave an estimate of how long I should expect to get more life out of it. He told me that it was built to last and then after he switched out the thing that got burned out, it was up and running. He said that he expected that there was probably another three to five years left in it. I loved the service and if I need AHS, I’ll use them again. I’ve recommended them and I’ve told people that it’s really good protection to have in case something breaks down. It’s a cheap monthly fee for the peace of mind that you’re paying for. If the contractor they send out to fix your claim can’t repair it, then they will pay to replace. It’s a really good deal that can’t be passed up.

That is not acceptable. We once went without A/C for a week in the summer, and now they're saying 9 days without a dishwasher.

Their contractors also tried to get extra work by saying that it was needed and then AHS wouldn't approve it. We called American Shield again and they contacted the technician/company. A week later, technician came and replaced some parts. We waited a 2 more weeks. Nobody came, nobody called us.

We had to call back to American Home Shield again! They sent a different technician, who came and replaced another part, and he told us not to use the dryer for 2-3 hours. When we started to use it again – nothing changed. The noise and vibration started was even worse than before. We had to call again to American Home Shield, talk with manager about this issue. After arguing a long time with American Home Shield, they finally sent the first technician back to our house again. He recorded a video of the dryer and told us that he cannot fixed it and American Home Shield will contact us. As always, no-one contacted us.

We called again into American Home Shield and were told that this technician reported the dryer is working. We explained that our dryer still doesn’t work properly and is making unbearable loud sound. American Home Shield gave us another company. We contacted to this company and told them that we will be out of country and we call back after New Year. When we called back, they told us that they don’t have record of the request and we need to call again into American Home Shield. Last call was 1/8/18 to American Home Shield and they told us that we need to open a new request and pay additional $75 for a new claim!!!!

Every time we call into American Home Shield, we wait for more than one hour and take the day off every time a technician comes. We have been dealing with this issue for over 3 months now with no improvement to our dryer. The dryer is still not working properly and the noise is getting louder. The noise sounds like metal rubbing and scraping against metal throughout the cycle and the clothes is taking longer to dry.

I submitted claims online for the washing machine, since a sock got stuck in the drainage hose, and garage opener, as its gear went bad. The two contractors who came were awesome. The garage door took a bit of time to get fixed but it was the holidays so it was fine. Having a good company have my back if something breaks at the house gives me peace of mind. I'd recommend them. However, I think that they should have some kind of bonus if you only use the warranty a couple of times a year.

I'm in real estate and I've been selling AHS warranty for years. My overall experience with them has been good although at different times, I've waited more than an hour for a rep on the phone. But they've always treated me very nicely and they've been very thorough. But right now, I'm dealing with the worst service in the world. In fact, the two bad experiences I've had were with this particular company and they were regarding my furnace and my daughter's heat pump.

Back on December 18, 2016, a part had broken on my gas furnace. When the temperature becomes 30 degrees or below, the furnace will work for a period of time and then it builds up moisture and cuts off. You have to throw the breaker and it takes 30 minutes to reset. The part had to come from Texas and the company that came out was slow in ordering the part. It was supposedly on a truck coming from Texas but I ended up replacing the furnace and taking credit for the part. The contractor finished putting the part in at 8:00 PM of December the 23rd and they left here in the dead of the night. Things went downhill from there.

The company that put the part in did not put the correct furnace under my house and now they're calling me a liar. I've been in contact with Caroline and American Home Shield has been trying to get the issue resolved. I'm now in the process of getting written statements from the contractor that put the unit in and another contractor that I've had out. Then I'm going to submit them to Caroline. But if the issue doesn't get resolved, I'm suing this company and I've already told Caroline too. It's just one of those things where I've got to watch the contractors. But this aside, I have recommended them to others.

Nobody would've been in the office at that point. So it was one call that took me 20 minutes instead of I don't know how many calls it would've taken me. Plus the guy let me say what I needed and what was going on. He didn't interrupt me and he listened. He also asked questions that were useful.

The plumbers got out here within 24 hours, which was wonderful and all I had to do was show up. I work within 15 minutes of my house so I asked the specialist from Home Shield to tell the guys to give me a call when they're about half an hour out. They got it and called, and I was there. They sent two guys who were really friendly, professional and polite. They looked at the problem and fixed it. They knew what they were doing and I couldn’t have been happier.

After the whole experience, I saw home much the warranty cost and even if I had paid for it, it had just paid for itself then. The plumber itself probably cost $300 and the warranty saved me all kinds of hassle. Being new to the area, I didn’t know a plumber to call or how much it would cost but I guarantee it cost more than the $75 that I had to pay. It was nice to have something that actually worked well. I have friends who have recently bought homes and other friends that are looking for homes and I told them to get the warranty. When you buy a house and move in, little things would go wrong and everything that is unplanned would come up. It was nice that one of those things was handled by somebody else. I was very happy with my interactions with AHS and with the company that they contracted with. I have no doubt that when I get the renewal notice, I would to renew the warranty. AHS is good for easy repairs but if I need something out of the ordinary, sometimes I just call my own repair person and have him fix it. Their price is also fair and 60% of the repair people that they sent out were good while 40% were subpar. Out of that 40%, I didn’t send 20% of them back to my house. When my oven's control panel shorted and it stopped working, I submitted a claim and got the very first person out very quickly. Then the tech had to get a part. But it's now going into weeks and my oven is still not fixed. There was no way to email the repair person so it was on me to call him. But when I did, he wouldn't respond to me. It was like a one-man show. It was not a place I could call that has a receptionist or where somebody would pick up the phone.

Then, when I called AHS to tell them that the repair person hasn't called me back, I was on hold for two hours. I asked them never to send that contractor back to me. I understand that this part was hard to get because I talked to another repair person and I was told that the part needed was backordered. They even offered to could take mine and have it rebuilt. I also understand that challenges could happen but the lack of communication was the big problem. I finally got somebody that has been helpful and they're now telling me the ETAs.

I finally called a representative, and then I had over an hour’s wait before I could talk to one. The rep I talked to was very nice and so was the gentleman that came out. He had it fixed in an hour. He was very pleasant. He had to run to the store and get a part, but he came right back. He replaced the blower motor and the heater motor. I would like to use him again if it happened again.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, I called in and went through a computer to tell what was wrong. Then, you will receive a call from the service provider within the next 24 hours. Recently, my central heating was not coming right. It wouldn't even come on unless you keep messing with the thermostat. At first, the technician said there was nothing wrong with it so I told him that it was not coming on normally like it should. He then changed the thermostat with an electronic one and it worked fine for about two weeks. Then, it was doing the same thing again. But I wasn't going to worry about it because I can still get it to work. Overall, American Home Shield is great to have when something breaks down. And when nothing goes wrong, it is just throwing money away. However, as far as the service is concerned, it has been good.

American Home Shield has been fine for me. I just started using them this year and I’ve filed two claims so far. My second claim was when one of my kids went upstairs and took a shower on a Halloween night. The water started coming down through our ceiling. The caulking in the shower had given way. It took AHS a bit of time to come out and address the issue but we figured out it's not the water and it stopped leaking. However, if it’s something super urgent, AHS is not very timely. It takes four to four to five days to send somebody out. Nonetheless, their contractors are really great and pleasant. I recommend AHS.

My garbage disposal wasn’t coming on. American Home Shield’s representatives were helpful although it was a pain to call them when I want to speak to a person. I've been with AHS since 1999 and it used to take not more than five minutes to speak to an operator. But now, the shortest wait time it took was three hours. I’ve even held on the phone for five hours just to talk to somebody. I already called for before so I needed to speak to a person to keep from having to pay the deductible again. I've complained and said it was ridiculous and they said they were hiring some more workers.

When I finally got a hold of somebody, they were really helpful. The contractor called me the next day and they came out a couple of days later. I was happy to get them that week because when I called for a claim lately, they told me that they were all booked up for the next week. And if I needed something done, two weeks was a long time. The guys that came were nice but they didn't fix the problem. One said he unplugged and plugged the plug back under the sink and that the garbage disposal was already working. He considered it fixed so it might be the socket because it quit again right after he did it.

Usually, the people that AHS sends out take care of the problem but for the past year, they don't have contractors as good as before. Some of the people they're using are not what l expect for the money that I pay. The contractors that they're using now sometimes don't call me back for a couple of days. And when they do, they'll say they won't be able to come. Their contractors should be better.

I’ve filed claims with American Home Shield over the phone and it’s been horrific wait times—close to an hour. My experience with their reps are varied too. I’ve talked to reps who are the nicest people, but I’ve also talked to some who are the biggest jerks in the world. My most recent claim with AHS was for a coupling on the water faucets in our restrooms. The first person came out and wouldn't cover the claim because he said my water pressure caused the problem with some apparatus on my toilet. So I asked for a second opinion. AHS told me not to tell the person who’d come out to give the second opinion about the first one because they didn't want to sway his vote.

When the person came out, he was going to approve the claim. He called back in and talked to people on the other line. He was told what the first opinion was. And then, he turned around, changed his deal and said, "Oh yeah, it was the same thing." AHS denied the claim and hit me for $300 to fix my deal. I also had to pay $100 twice for both visits even though I got declined. AHS is supposed to pull the call to review it. They said that it takes some time, but I’m not hearing anything from them.

And the one before this claim was for the hot water heater. AHS also said the same thing, that the water pressure caused my hot water heater to go even though it was 21 years old and on its last leg. Water heaters have a shelf life of 10 to 12 years. AHS declined the claim and offered to give me a little money for disposal. I'm starting to think it's a racket and that the people who come out are better off for getting the claim denied because then they get the business. I'm not going to keep my warranty with AHS long term. I’d also tell people that could not afford the large item to go out in their home, Terminix might be worth it. But for those who have money, it may not be something that they’d want to do.

We’ve recently placed a bunch of claims with American Home Shield (washer, dryer, refrigerator and ice maker) and everything was taken care of. The contractor that came out was great. They did a really good job. They were very professional, although they dropped something on the floor and put a nick on the hardwood. But then it wasn’t a big deal because they were so nice and good. They had to order a part the first time they came out and then they came back a week after that and finished everything up. We were pleased with AHS. Having it is a good deal. You pay a monthly fee and when things happen you can pay just the one fee to have someone sent out and fix whatever's going on. It works well, financially.

But anytime I call American Home Shield, I'm on hold five to twenty minutes, or sometimes longer. It's terrible. Other than that, they take care of the issue and everything is good. Recently, our water heater wouldn't function properly. The contractor replaced the part and it's working a lot better. They did a good job and I'm good with what they've done. I opted not to replace our water heater yet since the new water heaters are too big for my area. I would have to do some major reconstructing to my water closet so I'm trying to prolong that.

It took a while to fix the problem, which happened the Saturday before Christmas later in the day, so it wasn't the contractors' fault they couldn't get out. They were closed on Sunday and then Monday was Christmas, so they came in on Tuesday. That was as good as I could expect from that situation. I just wish they would hire some more phone operators. Overall, AHS does a good job and I would still recommend them.

Since I missed my AC, I just told them just do everything together and that’s when the tech informed me it looks as if my motor was going out. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out within 24 hours. The representatives were great and everything was done expeditiously.

My cousin said that the contractor that came out was very professional. He said everything looks good and I said, “Well, that’s probably because my AC people just came out and did the service and everything.” He said everything was working properly. He also said that there's no charge since he didn’t do anything, which he also told me via email. I was like, “Okay, no problem.” However, they then took the $125 deductible. The AC company told me to reach out to American Home Shield and see if they would waive it and the AHS rep said no. Other than that, I was impressed how fast they responded to everything. From me submitting the claim and having someone come out, I appreciate that.

We have been with American Home Shield for a long time and the contractors they've sent were good 80% of the time. While I feel some of them just want their fee and they're just going to rig it until it breaks again and not actually fix the problem, some guys are really helpful, like the one they sent when we had two plumbing issues recently. He even showed how to fix one of them.

But before that, our experience with American Home Shield was awful. It was the worst ever. They wanted to replace the whole air conditioner because it's old and there's not much they can do to update it. But it's still running. We haven't broken it. And they're only going to cover $75 of a $3,000 unit. We have been paying for 15 years so what's the point of even using them? Also, we have one guy come out and say that we need all this stuff, and then another guy came out after they have ordered the parts, who said we didn't need those stuff. It was a totally different company, so we don't know what we're going to get, which is frustrating.

I've also had so many problems getting through to them via the chat or call. Like when I had to call with the air conditioner, I was on the phone and was on hold both times for an hour just trying to get through. It was better though with the plumbing. If we have to replace the air conditioner and they're not going to pay for any of it, we would probably cancel because you can get a handyman for $40 an hour. It may not be perfect, but by the time you pay the fee, and then they're not going to cover a lot of things, it would've paid the same thing.

The contractor was extremely fast to respond, unlike most companies I’ve had when I dealt with AHS. However, I’ve been to the point where I didn't want to keep AHS anymore ‘cause I constantly have issues that people don’t come out forever. They take every minute that they’re allowed to call me and schedule if they even call me to schedule. Sometimes, I end up having to call them.

These people are super on top of the issue and they get me in as quick as possible. The guy I happened to have and came out both times, one for a toilet, one for a pipe, not only said that he was on his way, he was also early. He’s able to quickly figure out what the problem was, fixed it super quick, and was extremely friendly. Everything has been fine. The process of getting the work order submitted was very fast and the last two things have been stellar. AHS has gotten a lot better.

What a scam. I purchase an older home last February along with the AHS plan. Over the past year, I have contacted AHS for four different claims, a dishwasher that doesn't clean or dry at all, a refrigerator with a rusted out freezer making a constant loud noise, termites, and faulty exterior electrical outlet. The termites weren't covered, which I found out after about an hour on hold. Technicians came out for the applicants and said that they still function, even though very poorly, so not covered.

Last week I booked an electrician to deal with the faulty exterior outlet. The service called immediately, asked the nature of the job (which I told them an outdoor outlet) and booked the appointment. I paid the $75 to AHS. The technicians arrived on time, but IMMEDIATELY told me it wasn't covered by my policy since it was outside. They charged me another $55 to replace the broken outlet. I checked my policy AGAIN and the exclusions were listed, but nothing about the exterior. I called both AHS and the electrical company to recoup the lost money and was basically told, "Too bad." In speaking with the 'we aren't going to help you' AHS associate on the phone, she pointed out the small print in another area of the contract that mentioned "confinement of home" language...not outlined in the Electrical coverage area. So very frustrating. AHS keeps sending me notices to renew my policy...at a $200 increase on top of that. Ha. I'm saving my money.

I would like to update my review with the new development. AHS did later reach out and send out a different contractor after they tried to reach the previous contractor and didn't get through. The new contractor showed up timely, diagnosed the problem and replaced the furnace (we do have to pay a significant portion of the expense, based on the terms of our AHS contract). I guess the previous contractor is just one single event of a bad contractor that happens to be in the AHS network. Our experience with the later contractor had been fine and that's also in the AHS network of contractors. So if you have issue with the contractor, and you are waiting more than 48 hours, contract AHS rather than the contractor. In summary, the furnace problem have been solved and AHS helped a great deal in this experience. Nice to know that we have heat in the house our pipes will not freeze and our children won't be cold. Giving a 4 star because of the initial glitch but eventual result is good. Plus, I would give consumer affairs a 5 star for providing this platform. :)

We purchased a home and at the same time the AHS warranty. A month later the furnace start to make funny noise and considering it's in the middle of winter I really need to make sure it works and continue to do so. So I called up the phone number of AHS, long wait and the voice recording suggest to use online system. I followed and submitted a service request online.

Now five days later, we are still waiting for a service personnel. The company that was set up never could be reached, and AHS never could be reached. We are on the northern east coast with cold weather in the middle of winter, the noise is getting louder, and the floor started to shake when the furnace turns on. I am afraid the whole thing is going to fall apart leaving us with no heating yet no response from AHS or the service contractor appointed. Very disappointed. I am going to contact a contractor myself and see how this matter could be resolved with AHS but my first priority is to make sure I have a functioning home.

I had a plumbing leak in the kitchen and the plumber from Allstate Plumbing came out. He said that he couldn’t repair the leak because the leak would recur and American Home Shield would have to give me credit to buy a new faucet, and then he'd come back and replace the faucet. I called AHS and they said that they wouldn't do this, but instead they would replace the faucet, and I had no choice in the matter. That was disappointing because I would have taken the $50 credit for a new faucet, then I would have chosen an upgraded faucet and gotten a different plumbing company to replace the old faucet with the upgraded one.

The plumber came back with a fine faucet but it was not what I would have chosen, although it matched everything in my kitchen. He installed it, but even if he tried his best he couldn’t get it any straighter. The faucet was put on cockeyed and water got spilled all over the counter and onto the hardwood floors. I complained to AHS about this and they said that I would have to use the same contractor, and the contractor said that they would have to send out the same guy. But I said that I wasn't going to make these people do something that they couldn't do. After we went back and forth for two weeks, AHS chose a different plumbing company, Crown Plumbing, whose tech came out and did an excellent job.

My whole time with AHS, in getting through to them and contacting them, has been horrendous. They put me on hold and I couldn’t get through to them sometimes. It wasn't my first horrible experience with them, though, because I previously had a claim with them for a toilet problem and I had to make three calls to have this problem fixed and, every time, they gave me different plumbers that did different things.

AHS needs to get their act together. First of all, they must do better vetting of vendors. Also, they want customers to go to their website, but if I do this and I try to do something, it’s inadequate. It doesn't let me have a dialogue and I don’t get to explain my issue. There’s more to their website than pushing a button and it's very frustrating to deal with. They should have a comment box and a live chat option there. But I had a good relationship with their sales rep, John, who’s a very nice man. Although I’m very dissatisfied with the overall service of AHS and dealing with them was very challenging, since I'm with Coldwell Banker and we brand AHS and I'm supposed to be selling their service to my clients, I have to recommend them.

Then more recently, right before Christmas, a part of my kitchen electrical just went out so I went online and put in a service request online on the American Home Shield website. They sent me an immediate email, advised me of who my contractor would be and that they will be reaching out. I expected that since it was right before Christmas no one was going to call me right back but they did tell me they would call.

The contractor called me about 8:00 on Tuesday right after Christmas and said they will be at my house Wednesday between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00, they were there by 9:30 and they fixed everything in less than 40 minutes. The guy explained what I thought the issue was, it was not. It turned out it was a burnt wire in a socket on another wall. I told him that it didn't trigger my circuit breaker and he said it wouldn't because there was something in the mechanism to make sure the circuit breaker doesn't cut back on because that live wire had burnt out. It was great.

I had the part within a week. He came out and repaired the microwave. The week they got it in is the same day they replaced it. And everything has been working since. I have it checked for myself. The guy who came out to repair made sure that everything was working before he left. He even put a tank of water in it to see if it heats up. I just got AHS in October, and I used it one time and it was an awesome experience. I was very pleased. The repair was in a timely manner so I'm appreciative. I have already referred a friend to them.

I have had a good experience with American Home Shield. The only thing that makes me feel like changing them is their phone service. When notifying American Home Shield for the first time online, it sucks. I have to spend over an hour waiting for someone just to make the notification. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it happens, you are going to spend over an hour before you get a hold of somebody. That is the most aggravating thing in this planet when you have a problem with your house and you need immediate help or support. But once you get someone, it’s okay. They’re good as far as the services. The contractors that we just had over were excellent and did an awesome job. Overall, AHS is awesome and they take care of you.
