Having been in this area for only a year, we're trying to get used to the whole desert culture but we were having some issues. My spouse was in the shower and she was saying that the toilet is bubbling. We find it weird so we decided to get it looked at since we have the American Home Shield. I called the first time but I could never get through anybody on the phone. Then I had to do it online. Somebody finally called me but they said that they couldn’t see it until almost a week. I told them it was an important situation because of the potential of flooding and property damage. They said I have to call American Home Shield back so they could give us a new person. I sat and I waited on the telephone until I finally got through and then they gave me somebody. I called them and they still didn’t come for another four days.
When I was a little girl, my mother told me about putting dishwashing liquid in the toilet and then pouring boiling water. And then flushing it and using the plunger. I did that on both of the toilets and the shower. By the time the guy got here, I didn’t have anything wrong with my toilet. I cleared it out myself. It was my tenacity that fixed it. I didn’t give up on the issue because I didn’t want any property damage. So I was a little taken aback that they made me pay for the home call before they even got here. I ended up spending $75 to have the young man to come here and say he found a scrunchie in one of the showers, which I don’t think had any problems. The thing that made the whole situation bearable was the tech that came. He was so nice, professional and polite.
Another thing, I was getting some major reno done in the house and one of the guys ended up turning the water heater off. He did it wrong and something broke. I called American Home Shield and they sent a funky-looking young man who looked like he had just rolled out of bed. He went to my bathroom and took a morning bowel movement. It took them four days to get here and then he told me they have to order the part. But when he went back into his office, he didn’t even put in the report of our repair. I'm waiting that whole day and nobody called me. I called them the next day and I was told that the guy didn’t give the report and he won't be back until the next day. They never called me back five days later. I ended up paying out of my pocket for it and my reno contractor also paid some money because they were the ones that screwed up in the first place. But American Home Shield had the audacity to tell me I still owe them for the call visit.
I am without hot water all these days but because we were in the desert, we didn’t freak out since it's so hot. But that really colored how it would affect why we would even be with American Home Shield. I was getting ready to leave them when my contract matured but the market people did a hard press on me trying to keep me to stay with them. The service delivery here in the Coachella Valley is not what I experienced when I had them in the Bay Area. After that whole litany of dissatisfaction, I certainly don’t recommend them. I don’t like their business practice here in Coachella Valley. They have to make changes.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was very simple. I had three claims at the same time and they contacted me right away but it took a couple days to get the appointment date situated. My washer and dryer were going out on me. Then I had had a ceiling fan that wasn’t working. I was very pleased with the service I received for my washer and dryer. However, the ceiling fan experience was a dumb situation. The switch that powered the ceiling fan was not turned on, but it took a long time for us to discover that with the way the house was built. The switch for the ceiling fan was in the attic and the in there turned it off. The contractor talked about having to cut holes in the ceiling. Then he went up in the attic and turned on a switch that he saw up there and that caused it to work. Both contractors were very friendly and knowledgeable. In addition, they were willing to work and do what needed to be done.
However, the guy told me that American Home Shield doesn't work on it. As long as it's working, even if there's something wrong with it, they won't repair it. It has to be completely broken and then, they'd replace it. I thought that if it was broken, then they would fix it. It was a little bit deceptive. Other than that, I like American Home Shield.

My most recent experience with American Home Shield was a disaster. The control panels on both my washer and microwave went off and the contractor couldn't find the control board so we had to wait a while to get things straightened out. But my wife was satisfied with the first guy that came out and I couldn't ask for a better guy to do our microwave. They've done a good job. Then, we took a cash settlement and got paid an extra amount of dollars because of depreciation. We were told to go to Lowe's and to pick what we want. I've talked to other home warranty providers like Allstate who offered something for the furnace but with them, if I have more than two claims, I would have to pay extra, unlike with AHS who keeps a flat rate throughout the year. I love AHS and there's nobody else who does what they do to make their customer satisfied.

I have submitted claims with American Home Shield three times now. For the first two, which was for my washer and refrigerator, there were no problems. They responded very fast and the contractor who came out knew what he was doing and fixed the issues quickly. On my third claim, which was for my dryer, however, I had a problem. I submitted it online. It was easier but there was no place to fill out what my problem was, or if I needed the contractor to come back, a place for me to tell them why I need to have it done again. The contractor who then came was a GE technician since I have a GE profile washer and dryer. He replaced the belt, the heater, and other stuff and told me that it would work.
I thought it was going to, but it still took me at least three times to dry a load of blue jeans or towels. He also told me that if the vent was stopped up, the top of the dryer would be so hot I couldn't touch it. I've been keeping an eye on that and it does not get that hot at all so there must be something wrong with the sensor. I've called the GE people who came out using the number on AHS' form but nobody answered. I've left messages twice, but I've never heard back from them. I've also called AHS four times at different times of the day but the wait times were long and I gave up and just hung up.

I have four services through American Home Shield going on at the same time. Some are not completed and we have to wait a bit, so I’m up in the air. One of the services was done well but I had to ask them. There were two items but the plumber did not do the second one. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. But if we are talking about the companies that go out, some of them should not be on the list as they don’t finish what the request was. At the end of the day, the contractors are the ones that represent American Home Shield and some of them are trying to rob the people. They say the insurance company is not going to cover that so they can’t do it, which is wrong, or they don’t want to do that particular job which is not that complicated.
They will also try to make it sound like the insurance company is not going to pay for it but they will still do the job, and they will have you, as well as the insurance company, pay for it. That’s double-dip and you have to be alert. A friend of mine who recommended American Home Shield has had some awful dealings with those people too. Some of them are incompetent and ignorant of certain brand names that it's a chore to deal with them. But the good thing is if you call American Home Shield and tell them that you’re not happy with that person that came out, they’ll send somebody else. I would tell my friends that they are missing out on a great opportunity to save themselves a lot of headaches and money as well if they don’t have this warranty. I recommend American Home Shield to everybody.

Some stoppage in our master bathroom started on Monday. We just did the claim online and they called us the next day. That part was super easy. The reps have always been helpful and nice too. However, there has been a handful of issues that have come up in our house that has not been covered. That tends to be a little frustrating because we do not know. That's in the contract so it shouldn't be a surprise but it's not like we read all 60 pages of the contract.
With this particular claim, we weren't given the timeframe when the contractors were coming out until the day of. So that made it a little bit difficult. They texted us in the morning to give us a four-hour window and also 30 minutes before that, so that part was a little bit tricky. But the people themselves have done a nice job. We've had a handful of plumbing issues with our house and we worked with the same company a couple of times. They've always been helpful and courteous. This time, they didn't have the appropriate equipment to be able to address the issue on their truck so they have to come back. We called today and they were able to reschedule us for tomorrow, so that was nice.
Last year, we went through American Home Shield for our air conditioning and that took a little while. That was slower than it probably would have been had we not used American Home Shield. But it was worth it in the end because we paid less money to have it replaced. It was something that we were willing to tolerate at the time. We've had them for several years now and we've been generally happy.

I had somebody come out for my dishwasher and oven and they still haven’t been back. I paid for it and put the claim amount of $75 through my bank account but it kept on getting declined. I tried calling them back to see what was going on but it just takes too long on the phone with them. But overall, my experience has been fine because it was my fault for not calling back up. I would recommend American Home Shield.

Our heater was pausing before it turned on. I submitted the claim online to AHS and it was very easy, and I've been told that you get a response faster if you do it online. I had to pay in advance for the copay. The contractor was very polite, but he didn't do anything. I had him come back and he just wiped off the dust from a bulb up there. I called him back three weeks later because I could still hear it, and he said it was fine. I'm not sure that it is, so I was not overwhelmingly impressed. I've lived in this house for a very long time, and I know what sounds are normal more than a guy who just walked into it five minutes before. I'll probably call my home warranty person and have her send somebody else out. I'm a realtor who refers AHS and I put my own buyers in this product, so I expect it to work when they fix something.

When you buy a house and get coverage with American Home Shield, if anything goes wrong with the house, up to a limit, they will come in and fix it for you with just a service call. I submitted a claim online to get my toilet fixed and it was great navigating their website. It was really easy to do. The technician that came out was informative and answered all the questions I had. He also told me what he was doing every step of the way. The repair was pretty helpful and now I can use the toilet.

My oven went out on Thanksgiving Day which was a Thursday but we didn't have the service person out here until Monday. Even then, he had to go back and forth with American Home Shield for a week because there were two things we had to replace and they couldn’t order one of them. They finally approved that they would just replace the oven but it took them another week to show us the information on what we could order new.
I took some time to check the options and decide on what we want, then I called and ordered it. The wait time when you call in is the other annoying thing that American Home Shield does. They try to make everything automated and they say it would be faster if I do that automated request online. At one point, I sat on the phone for an hour and a half. Everything is just really slow. But the Friday before Christmas, the guy came back and installed the oven. It was done and there was minimal cost to us so that was helpful, but over a month was a long time to be without an oven. But we finally have it and we’re happy with it.

My hot water heater was leaking, so the contractor AHS sent had to replace one of the bendy pipe things on the top. I submitted the claim online, so it was really easy. The online site is great. But when you call in your claim, forget it. I've had the air conditioner go out twice and it took me three days just to get the claim processed. Then, they put me with a contractor. It took them 10 days and it was 110 degrees. The call center is awful and I had to escalate to a manager. It was just drama and it was horrible so now I know to just do it online. You get queued up within a few hours and it's great.
The contractor was good. His name was Alex and he had a helper. His helper was good, too. He got up on the ladder, went up to the top, and saw where the water was coming out. He changed the pipe and he was in and done in about 15 minutes. Since the repair, I don't see any water leaking. However, AHS just keep kicking the can down the road. Either the heater or the air conditioner goes out about every six months now, so they really need to replace it. But they won't do that. Last year, I had them out here three times. If you have enough money in the bank and if you are self-insured don't sign up with AHS to replace your systems. But if you're not, then, it's good a company as any.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for my electric furnace heater. It was very easy and fast to submit a claim online. It was the heater and it's in the winter time so it was important. I called yesterday morning and the contractor called me back at 9:00 and they were at my house by 1:00. Their contractor was on the list every time I've had any air conditioning issues. I've used them numerous times and I've never had an issue. They were honest and always solved my problems. Everything is working perfectly now. I would absolutely recommend American Home Shield. They have good coverage, good quality contractors and timely resolution of problems.

The American Home Shield website where I placed my claim for a garbage disposal and fridge repair is very easy to use. It's user-friendly and customers are able to go there to open and cancel a claim. I'm also able to take a look at the progress. Since I used to work for a competitor, I know that there are very long waits and not a lot of people have the time to call a 1-800 number and talk to a live person in order to place a claim. I did not experience that with American Home Shield. The technicians that they used for the services were very clean. They're very responsive too, which you don't always get. They also showed up on time and my garbage disposal and fridge are working better since the repair.

I called AHS on the phone and told them that my furnace was throwing out cold air. The person that I talked to was very courteous and concerned about what my problem was. They then set up an appointment for a technician to come out. The technician who came out was very professional and solved the problem. I’ve had many experiences with American Home Shield and I’ve been pleased with all of them except for one. The tech they sent was fierce and refused to take care of my dryer's problem. There was a dead mouse on a mouse trap. I removed the mouse and the trap, but he still refused to work on the dryer. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends. It's a wise investment because they take care of mostly everything in the house.

I was ready to go out of town and my toilet wouldn't flush. I had to get it fixed immediately so I called American Home Shield so they could tell me which plumber to call. I've only had AHS for a couple of months. Their rep told me some things that didn't pan out but it all got fixed eventually. The plumber was very nice but I had to get some of my friends involved to figure out what actually was going on. The plumber was telling me it was going to cost me a bunch of money because I needed a tree guy, this and that. A friend of mine put something on Facebook and the wife of the owner of that particular company called her and asked her what was going on. The owner of the company came out here and he was able to blow up the line and fix my problem. I haven't seen or received the bill though so I'm guessing the $75 paid for it.

The fellows were very nice and cordial. They made two deliveries. The first one was the wrong voltage and it wasn't a gas dryer. They left it here then the second dryer was delivered and they took the 20-year-old original dryer back with them. The second one was fine so we were really pleased. It couldn't have worked out better. We found out that we needed a new gas valve so I got a fellow who had some gas valve. We put the gas valve on and installed the dryer. I didn't want to wait for the other guys and we did the installation ourselves because we had a chance and we struck while the iron was hot. I'm glad that that happened because I learned a lot by it.
American Home Shield is outstanding. The only complaint I would have is that the last time I talked on the phone, I waited two and a half hours and that pretty much happens every time I call. Listening to music for two and a half hours gets to you after a while. It's really frustrating, especially now because they get a lot of demand out there because of all the hurricanes and the fires. They might want to take on a few more people answering the phone. It would makes us, the people on the other end of the phone, much happier when we don't have to wait as long. But when I got to talk to the people to do the purchasing, they gave me another phone number, which was a direct line. That was very pleasant because I got through every time.

The filter outside my air-conditioner had rusted out and then the AC lost all its Freon. I called American Home Shield and the contractor they sent found the problem in a hurry, then he broke the bad news to me. He told me that AHS doesn't pay for Freon and I wasn't too happy about that. I don’t really understand that because it was the fault of the air conditioner that lost the Freon and it wasn’t anything I did. But we needed an air conditioner so I went ahead and paid $380 for it.
When we had a claim for our water heater, everything that was associated with installing the water heater ended up costing $500 dollars. It was about as much as if I went and just bought a water heater myself. I didn’t see what they did that would justify that much money. So if I had another issue and it ends up costing me more than what I think it should, I’m seriously think about canceling the service with American Home Shield. They advertise that I’ve got $70 copay. They should make it a $70 copay and not throw in a bunch of hidden charges that makes it really not worth having.

I submitted a claim online with AHS for our water heater and the contractor that they sent for it was the best in all the 13 years that we’ve had them. He checked the water heater and there was some rusting coming down from the tube that came out of the ceiling. It was a bit strange but I knew that the piping had leaked once before. Another gentleman came by and they both checked it out. They were nice and they cleaned the rusting at the top. And they even went up into my crawlspace in my attic to see if there was something else leaking that was making that drip down. They went above and beyond.
They showed me in the attic where there were some drippings on the tubes that could come from that seal that’s on the roof by where the venting tube is. The condensation from the hot and the cold dripped into the pan so there was some water there, but the water heater was not defective. Since then, everything was fine and I was happy with my experience. AHS is well worth having and as long as they keep getting some topnotch people, everything's good. I have somebody to call and it is a peace of mind.

He does a really good job, including a time when I had to have all the unit completely replaced.
AHS has been pretty good but it’s getting expensive. But they’re the only ones I’ve ever used and I have three properties with them. The only issue I’ve ever had was in one of my properties in Hammond, Louisiana. There was one piece of equipment that went out and it took a while before they got somebody for it. When I have to place my request to American Home Shield, they have an automated system. They do not have a real person unless you try finding a real person. But I had South Belt Heating and Air Conditioning over here and they have been excellent. I've had them over at my house for years even when I had American Home Shield in my old house 15 years ago. They cleaned up and their demeanor was fine too. But, the people AHS has for garage doors are not acceptable, and they got poor marks from the Better Business Bureau where there were comments online of people who had poor experiences with them. I canceled that claim, but, still, I would recommend AHS. I would tell others to go ahead and try to use them. The first time I used this, I heard a knocking sound in our home. We had someone come out to inspect it and told us "that's just the way the house is" before they left. What a waste of our $75 deductible! 2nd time: We scheduled an appointment for a repair to our microwave. When we were contacted by the Contractor, G&L, we were told the many restrictions about how they do NOT service warranty customers within specific hours or on the weekends. They scheduled an appointment and advised that they would contact us within 30 minutes of arrival. The day of the appointment, 1/10/18, the gentleman just showed up at the house and did not call as guaranteed within the 3 hour window at least 30 minutes before his arrival. When asked if he could allow time for arrival, he immediately declined and said he was leaving.
When AHS was contacted, they noted that the gentleman from G&L called within a 5 minute window of arrival. They scheduled for another vendor to come out on 1/15/18. The username of that individual is: **. We noticed today, 1/12/18 that on 1/11/18 that we were charged $75 for a service charge for G&L. We immediately called AHS and spoke to Destiny. We questioned why we were charged for a service that wasn't provided and the contractor did not fulfill the requirements by calling within the 30 minute window we were given. She advised that no refunds would be given and that she "verified the information with an individual who was not a supervisor and could not take our calls."
When we asked why we could not speak to a Supervisor after requesting multiple times, she stated that Supervisors "do not take calls at night and only permit phone calls Mon thru Fri from 8-4 pm." She further advised that there was no one available to cancel the contract and that no returned phone calls would be given to us until at least 48 BUSINESS HOURS (not 2 business days as verified). I informed her that we would be filing a fraud claim with our bank for unauthorized charge and filing a complaint.

The heater went out on New Years’ eve. No one would take my phone call and my claim, and there’s no way to address it. I have a newborn and was without heat for three days and it was below zero. American Home Shield needs to get something that can expedite overnight for no heat issues or flooding issues, even if it means paying extra for it. I also tried to get ahold of a supervisor but every time I would, I would be put back on hold for three hours. After a couple of calls, one person called and I had come to find out she was about to get off that day and she said that she had no internet to even file my claim.
When my claim was finally set up, the contractor they sent was awesome. They explained everything to my fiancé in great detail and the heater is now working. American Home Shield is a product worth getting instead of paying full price if something happened. I definitely would recommend it for a first time home buyer and make sure it’s in there when you buy a home, even if you have to purchase it yourself because it’s cheaper when they purchase the first time they buy a home.

Doing my claims online is fast and convenient. When our pool wasn’t working as there was an issue with the pump, American Home Shield sent a contractor who was very knowledgeable, kind and professional. The pool problem was resolved but we needed to try and do something about an electrical issue. AHS was a part of the closing for our new house and we didn’t realize that electrical coverage wasn't included. We tried to talk to someone but the wait time was going to be over 30 minutes. I can’t really get a hold of anybody to talk to without having to wait forever.
Right now, we have a pipe in our bathroom that is leaking which is a nightmare because we have to have the water turned off in our house, otherwise it'll continue to leak. I placed the claim in today and I got a text that said a plumber would contact us. I am going to have to wait three days before a plumber actually calls me to fix this plumbing issue at my house and that’s not okay. Plus, I still have to pay $75 for someone to come out and fix it which is not very expensive in the overall scheme of having a plumber fix it. But if I have to wait three business days for someone to call me just to schedule the appointment, that’s a real hiccup in my house. There are four people here and we all shower, wash our hands, go to the bathroom, do dishes and laundry. We can't function.

The oven was off and I could not get the error to clear. I waited a day but it still did not clear, so I called American Home Shield. When the tech came out, the oven still had the error message. He looked inside and the only thing I noticed that he did, which I thought was odd, is that he put a q-tip in the spot where the temperature probe would be inserted and just spun it around. Nothing changed at that point so he said he was going to have to go back to research some more and that he may have to order a part.
The next morning, I noticed that the error message had cleared. I looked on the net and saw that this is a frequent problem with this brand of double oven set. When you roast something that has a high moisture content, like sweet potatoes, it can screw up the mechanics until it dries up on the inside. The tech may have helped it along a little faster with the q-tip, but he did not do it deliberately.
I don’t have a complaint about them coming out to take a look. It was a learning experience for me to go out and go, “This is ridiculous”, and to next time to check the web before I call. AHS was perfect although I was dismayed when the tech said that he’d have to go back and research it. I have a lot of friends that don't have home warranty services and they’re continually dismayed when their furnace or their water heater goes down. I tell them that this house is covered by the warranty when I moved into it and I don’t have to worry about things. I’m going to renew with American Home Shield.

We have two air conditioning units but the one on the top floor was giving us issues. It would not heat or cool. I went to the AHS website and submitted the claim. It was over the weekend and they always say 24 hours. The contractor company got back to me that Monday which was a holiday. I couldn’t talk to the contractor right away because I was about to walk into a restaurant. So I contacted them back and the guy told me he was going to be out there the next day between 10:00 and 2:00 and I agreed with that.
The next day, my wife waited for four hours for him to show up, and he never contacted me saying that he wasn’t going to be there before 2:00. I told the contractor originally that my wife had to leave at 2:30 to pick up the children. The communication was pretty bad and I had to pick up the phone and asked if the contractor was coming at 3:00. I couldn’t call him directly, and I had to call the air conditioning people. They didn’t answer their phone at their office, so I left a pretty straightforward message there saying communication would be good. And that we needed to know what was going on. Then they called me back on my cell about 10 minutes later and they said the guy happened to be close in the area but he had been running late for another job.
He could have at least called me and let me know. When he came, I wanted to him to check the unit all the way to how it was made to make sure everything was blowing right. But he just wanted to make a quick fix. He went over there and my wife told me that all he did was walk to the unit outside then he dug up a little area and pushed the button and that was it. The unit did come back on and it’s still heating but I want him to spend a little bit more time. He was hurrying from one job to another. He fixed the problem but it might be another problem then I might pay another $75.
I was expecting a little bit better servicing and the timing was horrible. Plus there was very little communication. On the other hand, American Home Shield was fine. Everything was easy about the process and all they did was good service. They would text me with the name of the contractor and that they will contact me within 24 hours. And the whole process was very electronically done. But I wish there was a follow-up to check on the service given by the contractor and if the issue was resolved. Other than that, the warranty is fantastic and I would recommend American Home Shield several times to several people.

That was in the middle of December and I just realized yesterday that the faucet is leaking again. So I'm checking online what I need to do. We are now able to get in and out because at first, we had it stopped working but it wouldn't work. Some time in mid-December, I contacted American Home Shield about an electrical issue in our rental house. Submitting the claim was straightforward and easy. I did it through the web, and I just selected the property and gave a quick description of the issue. Then I got an email saying someone will be contacting me. I put the contractors in touch with the tenants. And they went out there and took care of it. They had to go back out because the tenant was saying it still wasn’t heating well although I think that was because of the crazy, bitter cold and not that it wasn’t fixed properly. After which, I never heard back from American Home Shield and the tenants didn’t complain again. I only just started with American Home Shield a couple of months ago and I’ve had a few items to call about. But so far, I’ve been happy with them and I’d recommend them.

My third time to file a claim was when the fan and freezer of my refrigerator stopped working. I did it over the phone and it wasn’t bad but the wait time for calling the customer service was at least an hour. Their representatives were pretty good and the actual technicians were great. The technicians came on time, nice, friendly, and got the job done quickly. I like their professionalism. But I got frustrated with them as it took over a month to do it and I took four days off of work for them to get it done. They came in the first day and diagnosed it. They ordered the part and it took a while to get the part. Then, I took another day off for them to show up. The tech got sick and cancelled on me. After that, I took another day off because the contractors decided not to show up due to bad weather.
All the other experiences I've had with AHS were great. It's just this one experience that really turned me off on them. I called AHS to talk about the contractor and I was on the phone forever. They were supposed to call me but never did. This one experience probably lost me as a customer. Also, AHS needs to deal with the wait time and when a subcontractor cancels three times, it might be time to figure something else. I wouldn’t recommend it to my friends.

The furnace was not working. When I went into American Home Shield’s website to submit a claim, they had a list of appliances and I had to press the one I had an issue with. It was a long list and when I saw air conditioning, I pressed that thinking the AC and furnace were the same thing since they’re one unit. Then I checked out and paid with my Bank of America credit card. I was told that I wouldn’t be charged the $100 until the repair people came out. But they charged my card right away because I got a text from the bank.
After that, the Ocala branch for the air conditioner repair called me and asked about my AC. I told them it was working and that it was the heat that was not working. They told me to go back to the website and press the furnace one. So I did that. Then they called again to say that they cancelled out my other claim and that they’d be out on Monday for the furnace. When the techs came, they were excellent, extremely courteous, and professional. They worked quickly, found the problem right away, and didn’t dilly-dally. I could also relate with them because I do service work as well, and they handled the repair just like I would handle it. The heat’s never worked better since the repair and I’m glad that AHS have people out there to help us.
Since the techs didn’t come out for the air conditioning and instead came out for the furnace, I figured AHS would cancel the charge that I previously paid for the AC. But they told me that I was past due on my $100. I tried getting ahold of them to tell them that I already paid that, and that their techs only came out one time to work on the furnace, but they put me on hold several times in the day. I’m still trying to get ahold of them and I wish they responded a little quicker.

When I file claims with American Home Shield, I do it online. Although the website is fine, you can't really get into detail at all with what the problem is. And this sometimes affect their service. I had them come out for a pool pump that had the bearings going out, so it was making an unbelievably loud sound when it was on. My neighbors were complaining. Using the website, all I could tell AHS was that I have a problem on my pool pump. When the contractors come out, they said, “Well, I'm sorry because it still works.” In this case, if I could have described the problem, I could have even been told upfront that AHS would not cover it and not waste my time or my $125.
I also had somebody come out because one of my two heat pumps wasn't working. Previously, I had a maintenance check up on both of them. And then, one stopped working and the contractor who came out was very abrupt and impatient. He wanted to know if I had someone else out there working on it. I felt like he was just checking a box, just wanted to see people who came out, and just wanted to get paid by AHS and get the heck out.
Then the most recent claim I had was for a faucet. The hose under it was leaking. AHS sent a plumber out and had to order the parts. The part was not available for three months. The plumber had me call the manufacturer and they shared to me a whole new faucet. So, instead of waiting three months, I got a new faucet. But, American Home Shield would only pay for the plumber to replace the hose. They wanted him to take the hose off the brand new faucet instead of installing the new faucet, which I think is ridiculous. So, I have a brand new faucet sitting there with a hose that has a hole in it. Otherwise they would just have me wait three months to get the new hose in. It got resolved because I worked it out with the contractor to install the new faucet. I would tell my friends to check in to other home warranties first before going with American Home Shield.
Hello, Linda. I do apologize that you were not able to speak to anyone and placed a work order online without knowing what to expect. We've been living over there for over 20 years and some of the claims were easy to submit but some of them were not. I used to get frustrated early on because they didn't want anybody to file the claim but my wife because the policy is in her name. But that might have been 15 years ago and they're a little better now. I've also learned that certain people they use are more reliable and more upfront. If it's air conditioning, I know I want A1 and if it's an appliance, I know I want Sears Appliance. Some of the other folks they send would come out but then you would have to wait a week or two for them to get the part and come back because they schedule.
But by the time I pay them my premium and that fee for somebody to come out which keeps on going up every year, I could just save my own money and pay for the work that needs to be done. If it ain't your air conditioner, you could pay to get it fixed yourself and it'll probably come out cheaper. It's a catch-22, a stick in one hand and half a dozen in the other one. I haven't even had problem with my AC in about 10 years. Plus about 10 years ago, if it breaks they wouldn't want to come out and look at it. They would play like you're the one who went out there and broke the air conditioner so they have an excuse not to fix it.
15 years ago, the hinges on our refrigerator went bad and they wanted to tell me that wasn't normal wear and tear. What do they think, I've been swinging from the refrigerator door? That made me mad. The hinger were rusty and broken and they were rusting out from moist over the years. I'm not someone who takes no for an answer and they replaced it in the end. But if I took them on their first word, I would have gotten nothing for my money.
My wife is the one who wants to keep the warranty. But I tell her that we'll end up with the same amount of money in the bank. Something might break once a year and if I use the warranty, AHS will gain in profit from what we pay them to pay what they fixed. The upcharge fee used to be $50 but now it's $85, and they need to kill that. It's not like they're cheap anyway. But it's the corporate world and they take all the money they can from the good customers. They maximize their profits and limit what they pay out. They're not doing us favors around here.

We recently purchased a house in the summer. I had to have a pool and it was an older one so I was recommended to get American Home Shield warranty to include the pool, spa, pumps, and apparatuses. The pool was going good but a couple of months into it, in September, the Jacuzzi pump stopped working. I looked the prices up online and they were pretty expensive but I remembered that I had the Home Shield warranty and I called it in.
Always when the first person answers at AHS, they’re really nice. They want to help you. They have the best customer service but once they transfer you to the next part of the actual claim, that person is ruthless. For this claim, they were really cool at first but then I got switched over to the next person in-line that does the claims and they gave me a runaround. They denied my claim because it was not covered. There was something about fountains and extra stuff that the company that does that does not cover and they also said something about them not covering jets either.
I let it go for a month. It was 75 bucks for the person that came out and I had to pay that still. They said I could get a second opinion but if the second guy says the same thing with the same words, I was going to have to pay an extra 75 bucks plus the first one and I didn't want to pay 150 bucks. The rep was going off of specific words in the paper. I printed out the actual contract and read word for word what it was and what she was doing. She was just using the words that would get out of the claim. It didn't matter what part of the sentence it was in.
I called American Home Shield again and while talking to the first person, I read out my problem. I drew her a picture of what part of the spa pump was out and she said it was covered. But she couldn't do the claim and she still had to transfer me. I got transferred over and they finally said they were going to cover the claim of the spa pump. So they sent another crew out here but they didn’t replace the spa pump. They just changed the motor out. It's really loud but it works. Otherwise, it's still worth it to get the home warranty although it sucked that I had to go through that. They still got the job done for only 75 bucks and it was pretty quick.
I bet though that a lot of people wouldn't even have called again to try and just give up. Also, they should train their second person on the phone to be more customer service friendly. I guess it was her job to try to get out of a claim but the exact words were said on the actual title of the policy. They shouldn’t even argue about it.

At that point, the service tech said my 2001 A/C unit was not powerful enough to adequately cool the area and it should be replaced. The tech clearly said that I'm covered under the American Home Shield plan and that he'll put in for the unit to be replaced. After a couple weeks of not hearing from AHS or Bestway Mechanical I tried to call AHS but could not get a live person on the phone.
On 8/18/17 I put in another service request because my family (including my 77 year old mother and my young children) were very hot! I received no response or service call visit. On 9/2/17 I did the same with no results. I call both Bestway and AHS and left messages. Bestway Mechanical does not return calls! On 10/24/17 I created another service request to no avail. I tried calling to reach a live person throughout November and December but leaving messages on their systems yielded nothing.
When I look at my account on the American Home Shield website, all of the requests I just mentioned are marked "Complete"! Why??? Now my contract will expire in 34 days. I finally got someone on the phone today who kept me on hold for 44 minutes and then told me I'd have to pay the $75 fee yet again to have a re-evaluation. When I asked to speak to a supervisor she put me on hold numerous times and eventually said a supervisor is not available. I explained that the 4 "status completes" on their website are incorrect and not my fault. I'm sure that they'll draw this out until my contract is expired and leave me with a busted A/C unit during these freezing winter days and coming summer.

Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield for a heating issue was easy but it took their contractor, Bethany Air, about a month to fix it. When they came, we told them what the problem was and they negated anything that we said. So, that didn't go well from the beginning. I had mentioned to them that I already changed the thermostat and they still said that it was a thermostat problem. Then, an hour later, I came to find out that it wasn't the thermostat, which they wasted an hour trying to focus on. Also, they had the wrong part, so they had to come back again. The third time that they came, they cancelled on us on a Saturday and Sunday because they said that it was snowing outside even though it didn't snow. Then the fourth time they came out, they replaced our unit but it wasn't fully working. The fifth time was when they finally fixed it.
I also had a problem with my washing machine and the contractor, Sears and Roebuck’s, came out three times and didn't fix it. I had to call back American Home Shield to send out a different contractor. Then, with the contractor that I just had for the heater, I looked at their reviews online and everything that I experienced, people had talked about online. I scheduled my claim online and then talked to the plumber when he called. It's pretty easy to do it online. Last year, the plumber came out and stopped the issue. He fixed it but there was still a bit of a leak so I re-initiated or reopened the claim. There's a 30-day window where you can do that. Then I got a call from him and couldn't really figure out a schedule in the near term. So he set something up a few weeks ago to come out and that hasn't happened yet. I got to give them a callback.
It's a little difficult to figure out exactly what is covered with American Home Shield. You have to select a certain type of plumbing issue and there's a large range of issues that could stem from. We had an issue in the laundry room where a valve was leaking and I still don't know if that's covered or not. So, there are so many things that could go wrong that I think it's hard to cover that much.

It was in the month of December and something was going on with the thermostat. We have it through our alarm monitoring agency but it wasn’t them. It was something that was going on with the air conditioner. American Home Shield had to replace something. They’re always right on and we’ve been with them for years. They have always provided us with the best service possible. They are very professional and we’ve had good experience with all of them. We’ll keep American Home Shield for life as long as we have a home and we’re still alive. We have recommended them to several friends and it’s the best bang for your buck.

We had a busted dishwasher so I filed a claim with American Home Shield online. Then I received a call and the interaction I had with their rep was perfectly pleasant. The contractors that they’ve sent were professional as they got right to the problem and didn't mess around. They gave the dishwasher an examination, figured out what the issue was, left, put a part on order, came back about a week and a half later and fixed it. The dishwasher behaves a little differently now though, as it leaves a slight film where it didn't before. It’s just a little bit worse but it still cleans. Everything went pretty much according to plan and if you want something repaired, these guys will do that for you.

Recently, I submitted a claim for my heating unit. My home was not being properly heated. It turned out the fan wasn't working. And the contractor got it resolved, not the first time though. They thought it was fixed, but a little more work was needed. So I called American Home Shield and did another request, then a couple of days later, the same company came back and the issue was resolved. Overall, I've been satisfied with American Home Shield. Not only was their website navigation easy, both the technicians that have been out to my home were very professional. Just like I was referred to American Home Shield, I would definitely refer friends and let them know that each experience that I've had with them has been very professional and prompt.

For the last three years, I was paying out of pocket on my 12-year-old AC system. I spent a fortune on it and it dawned on me that I was paying for American Home Shield, so I called them. I submitted my claim with a representative so I could make sure they sent out a Lennox-certified person and AHS sent out outstanding and very professional contractors.
When they checked my unit, they found that a wire was hooked up wrong in my handler upstairs. So they not only fixed the problem outside, they also put the wires to where they were supposed to be. They replaced a circuit board in the AC, too, and did some adjustments. It took them 2 days to get it fixed and it seems to be working okay now. I'm also paying for my daughter’s house in Florida. She's in the military and every time she's deployed, something breaks. So, I had her house covered with American Home Shield, too. I'm really pleased with them. I even sent emails back giving them a bunch of kudos and feedback on some of the folks that work there. I'd also like to find out how I could get a job answering calls, signing people up, and dispatching repairmen for them.

My heater was not working correctly and was not heating my house because the heating rod inside that goes through where the pilot lights are was dirty. I was sitting in the house at about 59 degrees. I ended up calling American Home Shield. It was a day before Christmas Eve but they were really helpful. I asked a bunch of questions because with it being the day that it was, I didn’t know exactly how long I was going to have to wait. They told me that if my pipes burst, to give them a call back and that they would give me further instructions or call the people that needed to be called to get that problem fixed for me.
They really apologized that they wouldn't be able to get them out that day. I had to wait a couple of days but they tried to get somebody out here as soon as they could and it only took the guy about five minutes to figure out what the issue was. He took the rod out and cleaned it off and put it back in. He actually showed me how to do it because he said that a lot of times, those rods get dirty over summer time and he said that he didn’t want me to deal with that again. He also did some wiring around to turn the blower up on my heater. He went above and beyond to help me out.
Another experience I had with American Home Shield was when my hot water tank went out. I was really freaking out because it was above my house and it just started to flood in my basement. They got somebody over here right away to start pumping the water out. They also brought people to fix the tank over within about 10 minutes after the people that were pumping out the water came in. They actually brought a hot water tank, the exact same size that I needed and they put it in. It ended up about an hour and a half from the time I called until the time that they were gone. I was really happy about that.

We had Landmark last year for our home warranty and we didn’t renew with them. We had a bad experience with them last year with technicians coming out and not doing what they were supposed to be doing. So, we went with American Home Shield and they've been so much better. When I make a request, their people call right away. I just wish we could be able to detail things out when submitting a claim online. All it offers you is a checklist of what is wrong. But it would be nice to be able to explain, so when the company calls, they already have an idea what's going on. We recently submitted a claim for our pools pump system. When the contractors came, they fixed it but we could've done that ourselves. The contractor was very nice and he showed my husband what to do next time, so we do not have to call and make a claim.

We had American Home Shield coverage on the heat pump and the one in the upstairs bedroom went out when my daughter was here. The guy that AHS used before had to come out three times to fix that and he would just disappear. He never knocked on the door to inform us that he was here and we just find out he had been here. But he was a great guy and he fixed it. My daughter had heat for the next two nights but it went out again on the third night so we dragged space heaters back upstairs. It was Thanksgiving evening on the third night so we couldn’t get anybody back until my daughter left. The guy who came out before was apologetic for he hadn’t caught that the watering was incorrect. He did a patch and not a troubleshooting to see why it had gone out so he was here much longer and was able to fix it. We had some cold weather since then and we could turn the heater up a little bit.
I used to get a bill from AHS and pay it. But with their new system, you’re not billed but the money is taken directly out of your account. You pay the contractor $75 dollars before which used to be $50 or $65 and it keeps going up. At some point, the $75 dollars is going to come out of my account. They took the payment out twice because the guy made two visits, but it was the same repair so they shouldn’t have taken it out twice. And I caught it when the second charge was pending. They told me that it’ll have to go through before they can do anything about it instead of them taking it off. It took almost a month for that second $75 dollars to reappear in the account so I was very unhappy. AHS couldn’t do anything about it until it had gone through and if it’s a fraudulent charge, you take care of it before the customer is charged again. My sister recommends First American and if they cover everything, then there’s a good chance I’ll switch.
I understand your concerns with the second service fee that was withdrew from your bank account. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Last year, American Home Shield sent out somebody for my ice maker in the freezer. When I had requested the service, they told me that my freezer was covered but not the ice maker, and I was upset that I still had to pay $75 for the service call. I felt it was a matter of principle. I can afford it but most people can’t, and that’s why they have this insurance. I called many times until one day. I got a manager. She was so nice, but nobody followed through with what they say. I had the ice maker fixed by somebody else and it was just a little wire that had come undone, so they put the wire in. I called American Home Shield back and I said I need to get my freezer covered, and they said I need to get a certificate that it was working. That cost me $300. Some things are ridiculous.
Recently, they sent somebody for plumbing and I wasn’t covered for what they did. The contractor was polite and they replaced my garbage disposal. I wasn’t happy with the brand they chose but it was on the truck. It wasn’t that expensive an item and I wanted to get it done. The reps seem like they have no clue what is going on and I have to call a hundred times to get through, and the technicians are from different companies. I had a plumber come out and he didn’t touch anything, and he said this is not covered for a drip but when I looked at my policy, I was covered for that.
I was going to complain to American Home Shield about how they sent me somebody from a service call and then they tell me I was not covered, and how the technicians do nothing yet I get charged. I don’t think anybody took me seriously and I don’t know if I went through the right channels, but nobody responded and I just gave up. If you don’t know any people in construction or you don’t have any crews that you know of, American Home Shield is worth it because somehow, they try and send the right trade to you. They are very disorganized at times, but they are good, and I appreciate what they do. Their plumbing is really atrocious though. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has improved this year.

Until one night the guy came and just did whatever he thought he had to do. But in two weeks, the garage was broken again because everything they put their hand on, they told me that American Home Shield did not cover. So I couldn't use the garage, and I'm paying $350 on top of the $125 that I've paid them just to send someone out here.
When I called to sign up with American Home Shield a year ago, I had no problem reaching anyone. But since then, if I had a question, a complaint, or any kind of problem about one service, I can't reach anybody, unless I go online and put something in. And when I reach the number, the automation would put me on hold, and I'd be sitting there for an hour and nobody calls me back. They have my account on automatic pay, and I'm trying to get them to send me a bill instead because they go into my account and they take the payment like clockwork. Every time somebody is supposed to come out here, they take a $125 off the bat. I'm on a fixed income and I want to be able to control the way I make my payment. I tried calling in as though I was a new customer, and someone answered me in no time. But they had me going around in circles and they would not change the way they were doing the billing. Then they connected me to the cancellation department.
I told the man to cancel the service because I'm not going to let anyone manipulate me or my payment the way they want, and I cannot speak to a person. He said it's canceled and they cleared that account with this month’s payment. But if anybody takes anything else, American Home Shield will hear me on the news or from my attorney because this is ridiculous. Nobody from American Home Shield even apologized for the bad service.

My stove also went out and the contractor came out December 26th, and I have not heard anything back from them. They're trying to find the part for the stove but the stove is 24 years old, so they're probably not going to find it. The display on my stove is dark and it doesn’t look like it's on, so we've burned several things with the stove on several times. I'm a little irritated they’ve taken long with something that’s a big fire hazard. Other than that, the contractors have been good and were professionals.

We called American Home Shield several times because of the problems we were having with my heating system, and they sent someone out from Carroll. I've had several little things down with American Home Shield and I want to pay the $825 for them to come out plus the premium that I pay monthly. They were going to pay the 1300 but that wasn't going to fix the system, so we wound up having to pay for the whole thing. They screwed up and sent me a gas model instead of an electric model! They are trying to say I approved it and charge me a few hundred dollars for a restocking fee! The installers they sent are on my side. They agree I do not owe a restock fee and contacted them on my behalf. That was over 2 months ago!!! They never called me back. They never even told me I had a restocking fee until I called in and waited an hour on hold to speak with someone...who then transferred me to another department promising a small wait. ANOTHER HOUR!!! Just to be told I have a restock fee and nothing would be done till I paid it. OH, well thanks for letting me know!
This was a month after the visit and they were content never contacting me and just never giving me a washer at all. I have contacted them 5 times by phone waiting over an hour each time and once in an online chat. At all times they would not let me speak to a supervisor and said one would contact me in 1 to 2 business days. Nobody ever calls and I have to call again and do the same dang process over and over and over. Just today was my last contact with them online at 8am. I explained to the rep my situation and he was the first one who seemed like he might help and so I gave him a good review. Well, joke's on me, he said he would talk to the department and call me back personally after lunch. That was at 8am and it's now 6pm, they close at 7pm and nobody has contacted me...and nobody will. It's criminal how they operate! DO NOT EVER go through these crooks.

My pipe was leaking in my basement. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was horrendous by far because if I didn’t go online to do it, I had to be on hold for three or four hours per day trying to wait for somebody to pick it up. Then it took four days for the Mainline Plumbing to come out. The gentleman put the snake down the hole for five minutes and said that he thought it was a blockage. He was really nice although I didn’t think he did enough. He said that maybe the leak is coming from the washing machine or it's this pipe. He's a plumber and so he should tell me where it's coming from.
He said that he has to put a camera down to find out what's going on and American Home Shield would probably not pay for that. He recommended me to call 1-800-snake it and they could probably come. I didn’t understand why he couldn't do it. I asked what's wrong with his equipment. I had the same problem about three years ago and the contractor that time installed something in the pipe and blew it out and I hadn’t had any problem for three years. He said that there's nothing he could do.
I had to contact American Home Shield to let them know that the problem has not been resolved. The backup that we had is no longer backing up. The guy said the snake almost caught in the hole and that showed him that something is going on the ground. I've been here for twelve years and had this problem three times, so it's not a situation where I have it every month or every year. Filing a claim for a heating issue through the American Home Shield website was pretty quick and easy to do. The contractor called and came out a little later that day. For about three hours they were trying to figure the issue out because the heater just wasn't working right. They’ve gone inside the attic and everywhere and the heater just wasn't making an improvement.
They gave us a loan thermostat, then they came back and stayed to fix it once they figured out what it was. There was a shortage on the wire in the unit outside. The technician fixed that and then did the whole thermostat. A week later he came back out again to try and for about an hour total, he saw that the thermostat was the issue. Since then, everything has been fine. AHS is great to work with. Then he went back to the office and they didn't do anything with that information. I was left hanging so I called the HVAC Company and asked what was going on. They said they had to send out a second opinion and the guy will be here at 4 but there was no call and no show. I heard nothing from them. They left me without heat for almost a week and I got sick. Later that night I called American Home Shield and they said they did not have to send out a second opinion. While I was on the phone with them they called that HVAC Company at which time, they said they couldn't find any mechanical failure in the unit, which was a lie.
While I was on the phone with the HVAC company I told them to send somebody so first thing in the morning. The guy came out and told me that it was a bad unit. Finally AHS said they will replace the unit but I had to pay for the crane and the ductwork. I wondered why do I have to pay extra for the ductwork as AHS covers it. So they said they will cover it in the heat pump so I just paid for the crane. I told them I wanted the good company that they sent out to replace it because he knew what he was doing. But AHS said that they have to send the first company or I had to take the money instead. Eventually, I was stuck with the company that screwed me over and lied to me. They came and installed the heat pump correctly. The replaced unit is working properly now. I’m grateful that my new unit is under warranty.
The company did a good job but I had men on the roof watching them do it as I’ve heard horror stories about that HVAC company screwing women that were by themselves. I also called on three plumbing issues and I had the plumber come out. They did not cover one thing because it wasn't a complete fail but I had to wait for my shower to go down completely in order for them to cover it. I called them back and spent 75 more dollars to have them come out on the same thing that they wouldn't cover. I looked up and AHS has 3,000 complaints so that gives an indication of what they’re like. I would tell my friend to run as quickly as possible and go to a different company.

American Home Shield was highly recommended when I signed up with them. Initially, things were wonderful. I could call if there was a problem and I was able to talk to an individual. Now, AHS wants everything to be done online but I need to talk to humans as there are specific issues that I need to have a conversation. The latest one, I was on the phone for hours for my dishwasher issue. I was there for the first time for 40 minutes and the person never took my number to call me back then the call dropped. Frustrated about it, I called back again and they transferred me to different departments and they never called back. I had three calls before I was able to get through and even that, I was never addressed which left me extremely frustrated with the process.
So, I went on Twitter and made an announcement. Someone reached out to me in two days. Then finally, someone came and they fixed my dishwasher. If people would ask me, I would say AHS is fine if they are okay with an online request. But if they’re looking to get through to a human being, this isn’t the company for them.

I've had three claims with American Home Shield and two of them were handled pretty well by both American Home Shield and the contractor. They went above and beyond what they were supposed to do. One was handled excellently and the other was not so bad. It was a garbage disposal and they wanted to replace it was a much lower grade than what I had. The contractor said they'll only replace it with a contract grade device if I pay extra which I did to get the same thing that I had which was a little uncalled for.
And then, the third claim was horrible. It was a water heater malfunction. I submitted the claim online and it was very easy. We had an 80-gallon water heater and their policy is that they will not replace an 80-gallon water heater. They will only replace it with a 50 or 55 gallon and that is not stated anywhere in their contract. My wife and I read it multiple times so that was my complaint.
Obviously, I wasn't going to get anything legal involved because it was going to cost me more money in the long run, so I ended up taking a cash value out of the deal because I was not going to have them send somebody out to my house to install something that was like almost half of what I had. And the only way around that was for me to do it myself and to take the cash value which was much, much lower. Even much lower than what I know it was going to cost for the contractor to come out and do it because I spoke to the contractor and I asked them how much it was going to cost him versus how much he was going to actually build them. And I think they gave me 200 and something dollars less than that.
It ended up costing me $700 out of pocket. It's better than the full thing. So, I can't complain because it is still home warranty. It's already paid for itself. Apparently, it's big deal with American Home Shield because there have been class action lawsuits against them for the exact same thing. However, I kind of understand why they do it. In the regulations back in 2015, the government said you cannot install anything above a 60 or 55-gallon water heater inside of a house unless it is energy efficient. So I've got an 85-gallon water heater that I bought from my actual electric company to install in my home to replace the 80-gallon that I had. So it's not impossible or illegal. It was just due to regulation three years ago that's why they put that in place.
Still, I'm thankful that I have the home warranty because that was $600 that I would've not had to put towards what I'd had to pay. But at the same time, it's more of the principle at this point but I am thankful that I did have it. But the principle of the matter is I ended up with not at all getting the same thing fixed or whatever I ended up having to pay out of pocket a lot to get what I had of equal value. But the service and contract were great.

The furnace started kicking out three days ago and wouldn’t stay running in the middle of the winter. I had to give the thermostat a kick back on and then we called American Home Shield about getting a service guy in. Submitting the claim online is a lot easier but I like doing it over the phone. The process was excellent and even though there was a long wait time on the phone, they were very clear with everything and treated me very nicely. It would be good though if they would have a callback feature. The contractors sent out were excellent, very cordial and professional. They had to get the part for the furnace and three days later, they brought it. They were very good when they said they were supposed to come back. Everything has been great since the repair and the furnace has been running excellent. I would use American Home Shield again in a heartbeat.

There was a leak under the kitchen sink so I went online and did a claim with American Home Shield. The site was very user-friendly and the process was quick and easy. Within a matter of minutes, AHS responded and I got a plumber that same day. The contractor was great, professional and courteous. He got right in there and was proficient. He knew exactly what he needed to do and got it done. He told me what the problem was, got the parts out of his truck, came back and told me what he replaced. He was in and out in half an hour. Now, I don't have to worry about water dripping into a pan anymore. AHS has great service at a reasonable price. And it's just comforting to know that I'm covered by this company.

I'm dealing with American Home Shield on two different policies because I have one at my house and my mother has one at her house. I normally file the claim online and I've had no problems at all. My most recent claim was for my mother's stove that is almost 50 years old. They couldn't order parts to repair it so they got her a new stove as close to what she had as possible. And then, they came and they installed it. And everything was fine. The techs were upfront. They are local so they know the area. I've been fairly impressed each time with the technicians that came out, with the work that they did and their knowledge. They also gave me advance notice on my phone if they are coming so it has been great. I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend.

My heater stopped working properly. It would keep yapping and turn itself off. It was an electrical issue. Sometimes it works, sometimes it didn't. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and every time I call it would be over an hour wait. I was trying to find out specific issues concerning my warranty and I was not able to get a response at all. I would still like to talk to someone if given the opportunity concerning my warranty but I'm exhausted at it at this point.
I was having a lot of difficulties getting my heater fixed. But the contractors are the best there is and they did an excellent job. They put the original motherboard and put it back into the front of it. Initially, they had replaced some other pieces. Then, they put in a universal board in May and it started warming up. But when I was having issues again come November, they determined that it's the board again.

Just had our first American Home Shield renewal and have used their service since last Fall. We had a furnace issue last winter and our unit was replaced within two days. We paid about $600 in noncovered parts and labor. New unit was same BTU’s, but much smaller in size and we needed gas line, vent and water line extensions. Without AHS, the new unit would have been over $3200. We have had a water heater and icemaker replaced with no issues other than paying reasonable amounts for noncovered items with the water heater. We had some plumbing and electrical work done on three separate occasions and only got billed for the $75 Copay. The only negative is waiting on hold if you do a service request by phone. No problem with online requests. We always get a timely response from AHS advising who the service contractor will be and get an appointment set up within a day or two.

Since June 2017 I have spent months waiting, HOURS on hold, and money in expenses with still no repair. In June, our AC system was not working, I called AHS and a tech came out. He repaired our outside unit, but noticed our air handler blower motor was not functioning properly. He removed the blower motor, and left my air handler open and said it would take a couple weeks to get a new blower motor. The tech never returned my calls. He bailed on the job and for months, I never got my AC fixed. October came and finally someone at AHS gave us a new contractor to fix our system. They decided to recommend a new air handler in December, But added $1400 in "non-covered costs" for the install.
In the meantime, the temps have gone down and after the latest freeze, I now have burst pipes in the house with water in my basement because there is no heat. I am now waiting to see if AHS will cover these pipes. What a mess. I am strongly considering legal action and pursuing media attention, because no customer should have to go through this. I strongly feel that AHS should not be promoted by Consumer Affairs, like it is on AHS's website.
I understand your concerns with the hold times and delay to have your air conditioner and heating system repaired. I would like to assist and resolve the issues you have experienced.

I called, the technician come. 3 parts had to be replaced. 2 of them are available and the 3rd one Sears don't have it so AHS is now trying to find a part. They said is in back order and they don't have a clue how long it could take for them to get the part for my fridge. I have requested to speak with a supervisor or manager and they are never available. I have called over 5 times to get updates on the status of my repair and every time the hold time is over an hour long to come to find out my part is in back order and there's not telling how long it can take. I have also asked that if the part can't be located to replaced my unit and they said no! I will must certainly be looking to find a different home warranty very soon.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your refrigerator repaired through your AHS warranty. I understand that there is a delay due to the part being on back order as well as the hold times to speak with a customer service representative. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

When my electric cooktop stopped working, I filed the claim online with American Home Shield and it was very easy. They have a little checklist type thing that one can follow. I followed it and I got a callback within 24 hours to set up the appointment for the contractor's initial visit. The repair person was really nice and he came out on time for his appointment. He looked at the cooktop and told me exactly what was going to happen next. He said that he had to do some research to see if he can find the broken part. Then he told me I'd hear back from him if he could find the part, otherwise, I would hear back from American Home Shield.
American Home Shield said that they weren't able to find the part. Then they sent me an email about the replacements because there were several choices I can pick from. We decided that since it had to be replaced, we might as well go with an upgrade. We ended up going from electric to gas, which took a little longer because I had to have a gas line put in. I also had to pay $250 for the upgrade. I was expecting a lot more than that and I didn’t think it would be that reasonable to upgrade it. And the only thing I had to do was go online and pick out the one I wanted. It was such an easy process. American Home Shield is absolutely wonderful and really easy to work with. When they say that they're going to call back within 24 hours, they always come through. And if you're not happy with somebody, they automatically just change it out and send somebody different.

We bought a fairly new home. And we thought we were getting a fairly new refrigerator, but it's not. Apparently, the people who sold this home bought another home and they switched refrigerators. The one we have now makes this horrible knocking noise. It is so loud that it wakes us up at night and sometimes it sounds almost like a gun going off. It was still cooling and working but the compressor was going out and I wanted it fixed before it actually goes out and let my food ruin.
A guy from ABM Appliance Repair came the first time. He opened the refrigerator and said that it's cooling, picked up his bag, and started to walk out. He said, "If it's cooling, they won't pay me and I'm not wasting my time." So he just left. I called American Home Shield and asked, "Seriously? You guys wouldn’t pay to have this repaired before you have to buy a new one?" That didn’t make sense to me. The rep said that they would take care of it. They just had to have the technician go and tell them what's wrong with it. So, she put a recall in.
Then ABM called me and said, "Will you please record the sounds that it's making and send us the file?" So, I did because I've got a phone that would do the recording and it took me all day to be able to run in and catch it at the right timing. I sent them two recordings so they could see that one was really loud and one was longer than the other but I never heard a word from them. So two weeks later, I called and asked, “Aren't you guys going to set up an appointment to come?" Their rep said no and that the refrigerator sounds fine, that it is just more noisy than others.
I've owned many homes and many refrigerators and it was not right. ABM's rep said sorry and that it was just a waste of their time. So, they would not come out. I tried calling American Home Shield twice. One time, I was on hold for over two hours and my phone finally died. I'm not happy. We pay $75 and as long as they never put a claim in, AHS never has to pay, so it's a winning situation for American Home Shield even though all of their customers lose.

A month ago, the electric furnace stopped working. I filed a claim with AHS online and their website was easy to navigate. I got a confirmation between 15 and 30 minutes from the tech of the company that AHS was going to use. The technician came out and he was good. He diagnosed the problem, put some part and it started working within a couple of minutes. He even changed the filters upstairs for me and told me what to do. Everything was smooth. But I had them come back out when I heard a noise and it felt cold upstairs. The technician came back yesterday and he said there was something but not actually with the furnace. We were feeling the cold air over the garage and the technician said it's because it's cold in that room.
I've been happy every time with the technicians. There was never a time when someone came out and wasn't courteous or didn't fix the problem. But there was one time when the technician had to come back within three weeks. They didn't do what they thought was best at that time. My toilet upstairs was running and I didn’t know, and I received a $1,600 water and sewer bill. After it was fixed, I turned it off because no one ever goes upstairs. When my son came for Christmas to stay with us, I went up and turned the toilet back on. The water wasn't coming up high enough and it was dripping a little. The plumber AHS sent fixed that. Then I had a double sink in the downstairs bathroom. One was slow to drain while the other's faucet dripped. He took care of the drip problem and replaced both the washers on the sink. He also took apart P trap under the sink that wasn't draining well.
He then showed me the plastic pipe underneath the drain and it had stuff in it. I tried to clean it out myself. I just moved out down here two years ago but the plugs in this house don't pull out and are connected to a metal handle that one pulls up and down. Back home, in our sink, I could lift off the plug that stops the water from draining and I could get something down there to clean out the pipe. He cleaned out the pipe and put it back together. It's draining better than it did before he cleaned it out. However, it was not draining as well as the other sink was. He came on time and knew what he was doing. Moreover, he couldn’t have been any nicer. I was pleased with everything at the time. I called my claim in as I prefer to stay offline as much as I can on stuff like this. I have been pleased with most things with American Shield. The people have usually been nice. In addition, they do a good job most of the time.
The blower motor on my upstairs furnace went bad and I had to have it replaced. They replaced it, but after they were finished, the furnace vibrated a little bit more noisily when it ran. Now, when it runs, I have this rattling noise in the kitchen most of the time. I called them about it and the guy came back. He looked at it and said there was nothing he could do. It was the way the furnace was sitting in the attic. I also used their services to have my dryer done and they haven’t refused anything. They’re timely with the people they send out and most of the people have been very nice and professional. I just had a few little minor things that didn’t quite work out as good as I thought they would, but I got my money’s worth. I got a new refrigerator out of it too. Also, American Home Shield has a very nice newsletter, full of good information for customers that have their service.

So when the gentleman came out this last time, he told me that it was the heating element again. But I said I wanted the dryer replaced. The contractor then sent the request up and it got approved. And then AHS came back and told me how much they could give me and the model number.
The replacement is a white one but I have a silver, so I asked for the silver dryer. AHS said it wasn’t covered. So then, I had to research four dryers and give AHS the model numbers. It’s been four weeks and they’ve not responded. AHS is the one to say whether or not it’s the one they can purchase at the price they've given me. He even gave us a different kind that we can change whether it’s cold or hot.
It was a good thing that something happened as we couldn’t figure out the old thermostat that we had. The contractor was great and he was just a young man but he knew what he was doing. HORRIBLE: I have never experienced anything positive with AHS. First and foremost, I'm being charged for something that is suppose to be covered under the warranty plan. Our Hot water heater went out, I opened a service request, and the designated plumbing company came out 2 days later (Rite-A-Way Services, Inc). Not only does AHS not cover the cost of install of the new appliance, they don't cover the cost of any needed modifications for the new hot water heater. Now, we have to wait 4-5 business days for them to purchase a new hot water heater, then another 3-5 days for the scheduling of the water heater to get installed. During winter time, my family of 6 have to about 2 weeks before getting a new hot water heater to be installed, plus I'm obligated to pay $630 that isn't covered by AHS, which was never discussed when buying our warranty.
What puts the icing on the cake is that when placing a call into AHS, I have always been on Hold Longer than an hour and a half. Then, my call got transferred and was hold for another 70 minutes. I'm shocked in how American Home Shield is still in business. If I could cancel my contract with them I would, but I have to wait another 6 months while they rob me and my family blind, but legally. I sincerely hope at least one person reads this and changes their mind when considering home warranties as this is only one example I've experienced with AHS. I'll be leaving many other reviews and complaints to make sure many other people see this. Oh and by the way, I'm still on hold with the purchasing department to try and expedite our new hot water heater, but I'm sure that will get denied... So, if this says anything, I've been on hold the entire time while writing this review.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your water heater replaced, the hold times to speak with a customer service representative, and the noncovered cost to complete the job. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

We have been without a microwave now for 5 weeks. Our technician claims the missing part does not exist. AHS tells us they will find it. 5 weeks later microwave is still broken. If you want to call them be prepared to spend well over one hour only to then be transferred. Dealing with them is just awful. You have been warned.
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have experienced as well as the delay in service to repair the microwave due to a part. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I just spent the last few months defending American Home Shield just to be proven very, very wrong. What happened? I've been with them for years now and it's gone from bad to extremely horrible. The wait time of over an hour with no human interaction is real. To the point my property managers are choosing to charge me for the super long wait. Over an hour with absolutely nothing? Who does that? This is insane! I didn't believe it until I just did it 3 times and gave up myself. We are all working adults. Why would anyone want to sit on hold for that long? My question is still unanswered, issue still unresolved and the email function on their website conveniently doesn't work.
Not surprisingly I hear (previous post) that the sales phone works just fine! There are a million contact numbers for which they all lead you to the hold queue. Then I see here someone keeps saying a social media specialist will reach out but I do not use or have time to hang out on social media and that's not how I got the contract with them nor how they get their renewal fees. I still need to ask my question, is this even possible? Or just move on elsewhere? This is so sad this is the only way to get a response and maybe at that.
I understand your frustration with the hold times you have experienced as well as the delay in service. Please provide me with your contract number and I will follow up with you.
Thank you,

I have AHS for our home warranty and I called on 1/2/18 and there was over an hour hold time. I hung up and called again on 1/3/2018 and once again over an hour wait. I filed my claim online on 1/3 and it said that we would have a call from Pool Time within 24 hours. 48 hours goes by and I called them (Pool Time) and left a message. No reply to my message. So on 1/6 I called AHS and was on hold for over an hour and the answer was we will call and leave them a message. I told them that I already have and I just want a new contractor and they stated we have to give them 48 hours to respond.
I stated that I called Wednesday and we are at Saturday and we are not getting a reply. I asked to speak to a MGR and was told there was no MGR to talk to me and I should call back on Monday to talk to a MGR... I stated I did not feel it was right to wait another hour to talk to a MGR!!! They said they would have a MGR call me on Monday. It is now Monday at 6 and no call and it has been a week and don't even have an appointment to have my spa looked at.
I understand your frustration with the hold times you have experienced as well as the delay in service. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

This company is impossible to deal with. If you need a repair, expect to wait for 2 to 3 hours on the phone listening to how busy they are and they will be with you in 15 minutes when it is already 2 hours. Even the contractors they use say it is impossible to get ahold of them. This is common complaint with this company. I have reported them to the BBB in Memphis TN. Also, Wednesday January 10, 2018 a repairman will be out AGAIN (4th time) to fix my fridge. Started in early October 2017. If you go on Social Media Facebook, look under Class Action Suit for American Home Shield, you will see many more complaints like mine. This is ridiculous.
Updated on 01/17/2018: My refrigerator is still not working and now the ice maker quit. A contractor came out 4 times, replaced 4 parts and now the refrigerator makes a horrible noise. The last time the contractor was here, he replaced a part and left. THEN my ice maker wasn't working. I called AHS because they said they couldn't fix the noise as it wasn't covered. So we start over with another 100.00 fee.
I also had an order in to fix my stove top that quit. WELL... AHS set me up with a contractor and the contractor was to come out to fix the stovetop and refrigerator. Only problem, that company does not work on Samsung refrigerators. AHS said it was MAYTAG. I told them SAMSUNG. So what does AHS do. They cancel BOTH appoints. Now I have to wait a week to have my stove fixed. Sounds like they don't have both oars in the water. I am fed up with them. To contact them, you can guarantee to be on a recorded message for no less than 1 hour and up to 4 hours. I highly recommend that if you are thinking of using this AHS company, you think again.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I think, your service vendors are incompetent, at least the two experiences I had in the last 18 months. In Sep 2017, my electric dryer needed repairs, and All Brand Appliances was sent to my home. The techs came twice for a dryer repair. First visit, the tech said the dryer vent clogged by lint is the problem that dryer takes two hours to dry the clothes. I had cleaned the vent before, but he still insisted that professional cleaning was needed. Then I told him to check the heating element, which I suspected one of them not working due to current draw that I checked. He finally agreed and found out one the two heating elements was bad and ordered the part.
Then a different technician came and with the part he did not know how to install the heating element and he messed up the dryer while installing the element, the drum was wobbling and making noise while rotating. He did not know how to check the heating element function. He insisted that the heating elements, both were new and so they should be working okay. I was not sure, though the elements were new parts, the contacts were rusted and he did not know whether one or both elements were working. He left saying everything is working ok, just by touching the dryer while running. I checked by current draw, that did not indicate different draw.
The dryer problem never got solved even with new heating element, it took two hours to dry a small load and in addition it was rubbing and making noise. When I called All Brand Appliances, they told me the problem is with the dryer vent and not the heating element. So, I paid $120 and got a professional dryer vent cleaner and cleaned the whole system again. The dryer problem never got solved.
When I called All Brand Appliances, they told me that they are done with this and I had to call AHS and take it up with them. I had no recourse, and I spent close to $200 and hassle and the problem was worse than before I called AHS and All Brand Appliances. I was frustrated with AHS and All Brand Appliances and I bought a new dryer from Home Depot and got it installed by Home Depot. Then I found out that All Brand Appliances had a poor rating and a lot of customers had experiences similar to that of mine due to the incompetency of their technicians.
Now on Jan 7, 2017 my heating system is not working well, condenser was making very loud noise and the condenser unit was not completing the defrost cycle, and the unit was running all the time. I called AHS and I was assigned Total Air Care. To be careful, I checked the customer reviews of Total Air Care, and they were horrible, same story with AHS warranty, incompetent techs and no customer satisfaction. Also, I found that AHS did not want to change the company and assign a different service provider. All the service providers of AHS are quick in making appointments, but techs lack repair knowledge and training. I do not want to go through like others, costly repair option of changing the condenser of the whole system. Customer reviews are bad on Total Air Care.
If I did not have AHS warranty, I will not hire these companies or allow these techs to do any repairs of my appliances. With that in mind, I do not see any benefit of having this AHS warranty and I see the monthly premium a total waste. In addition, I have to incur additional cost to remedy the damage done by these techs, or replace the whole system pushed by the vendors with jacked up price. It’s an opportunity for the service vendors to sell new system or make money using incompetent techs.
It’s a shame AHS is not working in my area, due to incompetent techs of service providers. AHS warranty may be worthwhile in other parts of the county, but not where I live. My neighbor had similar experience with AC system and the service provider installed a new system at my neighbor’s cost. So, I cancelled my AHS service. It's a total waste of money and it costs more to fix the damages done by AHS vendors. Stay away from American Home Shield, especially if you are in Northeast Florida.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

They came back this last Thursday and said that they found a different problem and they fixed it. So far, so good. I submitted that claim over the phone and their customer reps were very good. However, it took a while for my call to get through because of the snowstorm and we had a lot of people having issues. The long wait time is not usual and happens every now and then. The contractor came in, did the job and they left. We've had pleasant experiences with the contractors except one and we've got them down on the list of AHS to not send them back. We've had a very easy and good experience with American Home Shield. I've tried the two other companies and American Home Shield seemed to be the best one on the market. They do what they say. I've had other ones that would indicate they've done plumbing but when I come to it they didn't do it. And then the other one said they would fix my microwave but they didn't do it either. They're charging me extra too.
I usually submit claims online with AHS and it's done very easily. I just get on their website and I would put the issue there. Then when the person calls to make an appointment for the contractor, they usually ask a question about what they would be doing. People like me don't know all the ins and outs and sometimes they can help you out quite a bit. The last time contractors were here they replaced the faucet and they had done a great job. When they couldn't fix something because it was worn out they replaced it with a brand new one. In everything that Home Shield's contractors have done, I haven't had to call back on them so they've done good.

We have a house that was built in 1925. We love it dearly but it was a project beyond our wildest dreams. We had leaky toilets and a leaky refrigerator at our rental and the tenants were complaining about it. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was totally easy because I did it online which was a hundred times better. It was very time efficient because I didn't have to wait on the phone and go through numbers. I just submitted an email to them requesting service, then they got back to me by email within 24 hours. The contractors that AHS sent were right on time. The refrigerator guy had some questions that the tenant couldn't answer so he just dialed me up and it was very good. Another plus for AHS is that they can deal with non-typical situations like plumbing that is not up to code. I've already recommended AHS to people.

I've had problems with American Home Shield before. I have been told that if my appliance was not broken, they were not going to fix it. This time, my air conditioner was broken and it was a pain to get it done. Their call center is horrible. I still couldn't talk to a human, and I had to go through all the Mickey Mouse nonsense on the phone with AT&T and the recording. Eventually, Barnett Air Conditioning told us the time frame on the phone. They told us when their technician was coming and where he was at. A couple of years ago, they sent a kid out and I wasn't impressed with him at all. He was just a kid with a work belt and a tool belt on his hip. Jim was very efficient and clean though, and Barnett Air Conditioning did a good job. They kept me informed even on out of town. When I had someone come out to clean my air ducts, they noticed that there was a leak in my water heater in the basement. Submitting a claim with AHS was always fast. I called American Home Shield and told them what my issues were and then they had someone call me and set up an appointment. The contractor came in but he had an issue because the other workers told me it was the tank, but actuality, it was the pipe going into the water heater. He came out and said that he found the problem. He fixed it and was quick, then he said that he had it all taken care of. I was impressed that he came when he said he was going to be here. It worked well for me each time and everything was excellent.

I had two claims that started at the same time with American Home Shield. It was regarding a cooking range and a plumbing issue. I opened a ticket online for the cooking range and within the first 30 minutes, someone from MMAB Appliance called me and an appointment was scheduled. The appointment was very smooth and the person who showed up was great. He figured out what the issue was, kept me up to date on what was happening, and replaced the part. So it was a very good experience.
I again opened a ticket for the plumbing issue and no one called me for almost five days after that. Finally, I received a call from the plumbing company and we set up a date. The guy showed up at the right time and was here for less than 10 minutes. He was giving snarky comments and said that the issue would be resolved but he wouldn't be able to replace the shower handle with the same bronze-colored finish that I had. He would put in another with a chrome finish and if I wanted a bronze one, I should order it myself and he would come and replace it.
After that, I found out online what that piece was and I was okay to pay for the piece myself. But I was expecting that the guy would come in and replace it once it was approved by American Home Shield. But a couple of days after that, I got a call from American Home Shield saying that the guy who went in diagnosed the issue as something that happened because of force and not corrosion so American Home Shield wouldn't cover it. It took me by surprise as the guy could have told me there and then if it was due to force. The diagnosis that he gave me was totally different than what was entered into the system.
I tried calling American Home Shield about it and they told me that I could ask another person or a different plumbing agency to come and diagnose the issue and if their diagnosis was different, then they would fix it and I wouldn't have to pay the $75 fee for the second one. At that point, I didn’t to go through the hassle again so I just ended the claim.
I even spoke with one of their customer service agents on the phone for a long 30-minute call and I tried to explain to them the experience that I had. I told them that for this issue, I even looked on YELP for the person who was assigned to me and there were similar reviews from multiple people who had this person through their home warranty, not just with AHS. A lot of people had similar experiences so I hope AHS would consider that when selecting which vendor to assign. I was told that AHS apparently didn’t follow online reviews because they may not be correct, but they take customer feedback into consideration so I hope my feedback would be taken into consideration.

They agreed to check the faucets, which surprised me while he was here, and he did. We had leaky faucets and when I called up I thought it would be another 75 bucks but it wasn't. The drain on my tub stopped up and I called American Home Shield. I wasn’t on hold for a long period of time for this particular time, although sometimes you can be on hold for three, five or ten minutes. It depends on what’s going on around the city. The plumber called within 24 hours and we scheduled that same week for him to come out and the problem was resolved. So far, the contractors had been reliable and accommodating. If I need a morning or an afternoon appointment, they seem to be able to find something. They’re always professional.
The only problem I had was with my furnace. We went back and forth several times with my furnace because it was an old one and the AHS policy states that if it breaks and they can’t fix, it’ll be replaced. They had several people come in to inspect and to check it and they were saying the same thing. It couldn't be fixed, it was too old and it had to be replaced. But AHS wanted the first company to try this and that. They had to get a second company to come in and they also said the same thing as the first. I got a little upset about that because it was a long period of time before they actually said they would replace it.
But minor things like the tub, the dishwasher and things that can be fixed right away, they'll fix. The furnace was the only thing I had to have replaced and it took us all an inordinate amount of time. I thought it was so unfair since they had to replace and they guaranteed that they’ll replace but I had to go through a lot before they replaced anything. But even though I had that problem, I’ve had AHS for a number of years.

We had a leaking faucet and shower and I ended up with two different visits through American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online and their website was fairly straightforward. The first one that came out was confusing to me. He was telling me about the code and it really didn’t make sense to me. Since I wasn’t here, they explained it over the phone and what he was telling me didn’t add up because I have a shower with two handles, one for hot and one for cold. He was telling me that their company is not allowed to repair those when they’re leaking because it was not code compliant so he left.
Another company came called Meyer’s Plumbing and I was expecting them to tell me the same thing but they repaired the problem by putting a washer in it. Normally you wouldn’t have two different companies coming out. I questioned why there were two but I was never given an answer. I did put faucet and shower in the claim so maybe that’s why. I thought that AHS was to send one plumber to handle both but I’m glad they sent two different ones.
However, some of their new process when you call in definitely needs to be updated so it shows who you are with the whole name. I wish there’s some way to carry forward our information upfront to the agent. Also, one of the things that would be helpful is to be able to sign up from their valid contractors for other work that would be outside of what American Home Shield does. For instance, I needed my bathroom remodeled, I don’t know if I can just ask these contractors to come out to my house because usually, they’re saying, “No, they contract with American Home Shield.”
I wish they could give a recommendation for a valid contractor, one that they’ve screened that I could be comfortable in using versus going out and trying to find one on my own because there are so many of these people. They’ll just take everything and end up costing way more than what was projected. I feel more comfortable if it was a recommendation from AHS. Other than that, they’ve been a very good company and I recommend them to all people. AHS takes the worry out of having to find a reliable contractor and I don’t have to worry about somebody coming out and trying to rip me off. The fee we pay is normally what it costs.

There are times when my dishwasher leaks and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield to have it repaired. We did it online and then they charged us. They then got somebody out fairly promptly. However, this has been going on for two to three months. The first two times that people came out, they replaced the parts and it did not leak anymore, but it has eventually started again for no apparent reason. This would be the third time and I tried getting a hold of the technicians, but they must be on vacation due to the holiday. It's irritating that if something doesn't go quite right, we could never get a hold of them on the phone and there's never anyone there to speak to. It's always done online. Other than that, the contractors that they use are good. I would recommend them.

I called American Home Shield for a claim and set up an appointment. A company then called back to say when they could come in to take a look but that became a little tricky. There was a bit of back and forth and me getting annoyed before they took action. There was a leak and even though we turned off the water valve, it was still leaking because it needed to drain all the water from the tank. For two days, it was draining and the basement was soaking.
American Shield said that they had 48 hours to respond but I thought that was too long being that we had the water going for the entire weekend. The rep insisted that we had to wait another 48 hours and I insisted on speaking to a manager. There was a back and forth between me and her until she finally agreed that they would contact another company and that company was able to come out in 24 hours as opposed to 48 hours. My husband dealt with the contractor and everything went okay. Overall, it's a hit or miss with American Home Shield. They need to realize that sometimes things are emergencies so their 48 hours doesn’t fit into that. In such cases, they have to waive that 48 hours.

I recently had a plumbing issue, and I used American Home Shield's online incident kind of reporting. I got a response within a couple of minutes. They called me and tried to schedule an appointment for a plumber to come out. Their online system is pretty user-friendly. It's also pretty fast. Within a couple of seconds, I was able to navigate through and put a ticket in. The only thing is the system is kind of limited. It doesn’t give options to do multiple things that come up. It just gives one thing. When I had other problems in the past, I had to call them and tell them there was more than one issue. If I go online and put in more than one claim, I get charged $75 per incident. And then when I call them, I usually have to wait on hold for an hour and a half. So, the online incident thing is much more effective and quicker. It sends out an alert to whatever services you're trying to get them to do. They get a notification very quickly, within minutes.
The questions are fairly vague though. If I got a plumbing issue, leak is not even on there. It doesn’t get very specific. There's no room for any more amplifying information. It would be better if I could type in a few things that kind of gives it a little more detail. But the contractor has been good. I've had the same guy over three times because I've had multiple issues in the house. He's been very receptive and very quick. Once you start getting into old plumbing, something else goes wrong. And he's been very good about taking care of it and addressing it right away. Most of the time, he fixes the issue fairly quickly. If he doesn't have the parts, he orders them and so it will be a couple of days in between.
I've been using American Home Shield for several years. I own four properties, so I have used them a bit. They've been very good about taking care of any of the issues that I've had. Definitely, I'd recommend them to other folks. In fact, I have recommended them recently to family members. American Home Shield is doing a good job. You're paying a little bit more than some other services, but they have excellent service, for the most part. They only need to watch about being competitive because there are other companies out there that are trying to steal away their business. They need to work on is getting some more folks who can answer phone lines. I have a property manager in Hawaii, and he and I both have spent an hour and a half or more on hold waiting for someone to address an issue.

I have only had my insurance with AHS for 2 years and have always had a good experience. This recent time I have had to file a claim for a shower pipe leak behind the wall and my experience was not so great. I submitted a claim on 17 Dec 17 to AHS to see about a leak I guess was happening over time because I didn't notice it until I saw that my living room wall table was warping and my wall border was turning colors. AHS sent BISSETT PLUMBING INC to come out on 20 Dec 17 to take a look at the problem. The contractor was polite, but the service was short. After about 20 min, I was told by the contractor that he couldn't recreate the "LEAK" in my master bathroom shower and that it was probably my shower that was leaking behind the wall and that I will have to cut into my wall myself to find out what the problem is myself.
So I paid $100 just for a contractor to come out and tell me what the problem "might" be. I currently can’t use my master bedroom shower because this issue has yet to be fixed. It is in my contract for this type of service for AHS to handle and pay to have fixed. Why am I paying to have this insurance coverage for my home if they are only coming out to tell me what the problem might be. If this issue isn't resolved, I will be cancelling my coverage and telling all of my family and friends to cancel theirs as well. I didn't even receive a receipt of the service provided.

American Home Shield has the worst customer relation I ever experienced. This is the short story: I have two contracts with them for over 5 years now. Both contracts paid in advance for a year. On 18th of December one refrigerator stopped working in one of the "COVERED-INSURED" properties. Since then, I made: request on AHS site, then several calls to AHS, then sent them 2 emails on their site.
Finally, they assigned a company, but the company get my old phone number –on AHS site they had the right number but AHS did not "UPDATED" the repair company with the contact number. Then they assigned the second company for repair this time with the right phone on file. Repair person –technician- did not solve the issue. They ordered parts sometimes between 23th of December 2017-28 of December. We are now on January 8th, 2018 and I have to repair / or buy it on my own money no one on AHS seems to know the status of the repair. IT TOOK ME THIS HOLIDAY SEASON - MORE THAN 12 HOURS CALLS TO FIND OUT.
So here we are: 20 days after reported defective appliance; AHS waiting time for a representative assistance over 1 hour at least; no one of their reps seems to know, to care or to give a damn on this contract paid in good faith; good people stay away from this -do not give them money. It's a total waste. I give them 1/2 star rate - because they have so nice music on the waiting calls. Finally they destroyed my contract, missed my Holidays goodies –no refrigerator -but they did not ruined my mood... good mood.

This company has a good website for requesting service however there is virtually no way to get to a human with questions or follow up. I’ve had an open request for >4 or 5 months for a repair to my air conditioner. No way to reach them by phone, I keep getting a msg that states “wait time is greater than 60 minutes”, no way to send them an email. So, I sit here holding a phone hoping that “greater than 60 minutes" does not mean hours on hold. If you need a home warranty service, try another one. This company doesn’t care enough to do something as basic as answering a customer telephone call.
Updated on 01/15/2018: Avoid this company, they are happy to take your premium but if it’s going to cost them anything, they disappear. They will not respond, I’ve called 2x and waited “for the next operator” >60 minutes the first time before I disconnected the call and >70 minutes the second time before disconnecting. AHS sent an air con serviceman to my home on 10/10/17 and I never heard from him again. It is impossible to contact AHS, see my prev review, but after posting here, AHS sent me an email stating they were sorry about lack of ability to contact them... then I never heard from them again, here’s the email I sent to the CS rep who contacted me:
“Stacy, then obviously you saw my review. I have since tried to call your company again and gave up again. Look at my open request in your system, I believe the date the service on my air conditioner began was 10/10/17 and I have heard nothing from anyone since then. This is going so slowly that either your company or the air conditioner repair company has forgotten about this requested repair. Or, the ac company you guys sent out is unable to do the repair.
I’m very unhappy about this lack of service and very disturbed about how hard it is to reach someone at your company. I shouldn’t have to post a complaint on a third party website to reach someone from AHS. I WANT MY AIR CONDITIONER REPAIRED or a new air conditioner. Did the repair company give up because they can’t repair it? If so, I need a new ac unit. I’m pushing on this because at the rate this repair is taking, it will be Spring before long... and it gets hot here in Raleigh. Please understand my patience has reached its limit.”
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We're not fans of American Home Shield at all. They haven't called me to schedule the appliance guy to come out yet, and that's how the service always is. Normally, it's not serviced within the first 24-48 hours. The average takes about a week for something to get fixed, five to seven business days. I submit my claims online because if I call and sit on hold waiting for somebody, it takes an hour and a half to file a claim because nobody answers the phone. And when you're a stay-at-home mom with a toddler who screams while you’re on the phone, an hour and a half is not in my book.
With the technicians we’ve had, it’s about 50/50. We've had great plumbers but I’m not a fan of the appliance people. They give you excuses saying, "Oh, we got to check with your plan that you're on.” Apparently, you need to clean the underlay of your fridge once a year. As a homeowner, I've never been told that until the appliance man told me that the second time he came out. And that was after I told him that I had the topline warranty plan but he did not believe me. He ended up having to come out a second time because he didn't do the job the first time. It takes them a few tries to get the problem fixed.
I wish I could go with another company. Unfortunately, American Home Shield is one of the very few out there. And for having a top warranty with them, it really sucks. I don't feel like a VIP member at all by any means. We tried to go with another warranty company but they wanted the entire warranty cost upfront rather than a monthly payment plan. We have tried to cancel our services. American Home Shield doesn't seem to give a crap.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service have experienced on several occasions as well as the hold times to speak with a customer service representative.

I was having issues with my heating system at home as it was only taking on an emergency heat. It wasn’t taking on the outside unit at all. So I went online to my account and then filed the claim through American Home Shield. I got a call within a day and somebody came out. The technicians were extremely professional. They fixed the problem right away and made sure that the rest of the system didn’t have any problems so it wouldn’t get called back out. Since the repair, the heater is a hundred percent functioning as it should be. I recommend American Home Shield to my entire family.

We had a loss of water due to our well pump and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was not a great experience. I initially submitted the claim through the automated system, waited full 24 hours and didn’t even get the confirmation email saying that it had been received by them. And of course, we were without water in our home. So, I called back again and waited on hold for an hour and 20 minutes to get a snarky customer service representative. He was quite indifferent about the situation. I was trying to explain that I like to request a specific plumber because when it comes to low pumps, not everyone knows how to work on them well and she said, “Well, it hasn’t been assigned yet, so I can't put a request on it.” I said, “Then well can you put a note that when they do assign it this is the one I'd like them to assign it to.”
And then she came back a few minutes later and said, “No. There's only one plumber that can do it and so it won't be your plumber.” I was like, “Well you didn’t even tell me the name of it nor did I give you the name of my plumber, so how do we know?” And it turned out it was my plumber. It was really poor customer service which is common, unfortunately, with American Home Shield. We've been with American Home Shield for a few years and more often than not, there are extended hold times that you have to wait for an hour. It takes at least that long almost every time to speak to a person and it was very common for the person on the other end to be indifferent. My interactions and the services I’ve had with the contractors sent have been good. However, we had one plumbing company that was clearly trying to rip off much at us and American Home Shield as well.
I have a plumber in the family, and the plumber that AHS sent out was charging almost three times as much as any other plumber was charged with the service, but other than that one bad plumber, we haven’t had any other bad experiences. We also had to have a refrigerator replaced once and they sent Sears out and the Sears delivery people broke our door jamb and bent the refrigerator's side panel, and then just left. My mom was there to receive the order. It was so quick I didn’t see it until I got home from work. But for the most part, the service calls that we've received have been through good contractors. American Home Shield is one of the only options that we have for home warranties and I wish they would improve their customer service.

The toilet on the first floor did not flush on the first flush and the toilet on the top floor would just run all the day. Submitting a claim to AHS was fine. I had a plumber to come out with the same issue a few months ago but it was more than the 60-day period where I wouldn’t have to pay that second time around. But the plumber at that time still called to fix the front wall. On the first floor, he said, “No, you just have to flush it and hold it.” You shouldn’t flush and hold the toilet when you flush it and I’m already mad at him. Then at the top floor where the toilet was actually running, it got as bad as it was. I’ve heard it running and I don’t know if it was because he was old and could not hear. But he said, “I don’t hear anything.” And I’m like, “Well, I hear it.” On the other hand, the contractors were very quick. They came on time and was here in about 15 minutes.
The two things I complained about and submitted a claim on for months ago were the same two things that needed to be fixed this time around. But again, it was outside of 60-day period so I didn’t bother calling American Home Shield. Usually, when it’s the same problem within 60 days, you don’t pay that extra $75. But I should have been a little bit more persistent in my complaint to them. That way, I would have avoided having to come out of pocket for another $75. The toilets are working now. It’s flushing with one flush without having to hold it and I don’t hear the toilet running upstairs. Get AHS, just in case something goes wrong in your house so you won’t be spending a boatload of money at once.

American Home Shield sent somebody out but the problem wasn’t fixed. There was no communication and the worst thing was not having one phone call for me to say what we were doing or what we have done. It was totally up to me to follow-up and make sure that the claim was being handled, which shouldn’t have been. After a week of no contact, I put in another service request. They then sent somebody else out and I finally got totally and completely disgusted that I said, “Fix it.” The contractor was fine and he fixed it. There'd been three recent claims to American Home Shield. Two were handled expeditiously and these were regarding a dishwasher that had an issue and our dryer that quit working. I spoke with a representative and it was reasonably good. The wait time was a little long in both cases but once we got a hold of them, it worked well. Also, both of the two contractors were very professional and did a good job. They explained, showed up and took a look at the issues. And both of them needed parts so they came back a couple days later and fixed the problem. The appliances are both working fine.
The third claim, which was with a ceiling fan, however, has not been handled well at all and it was very disappointing. They sent a contractor here who was incompetent and did not show up the first time. When we finally got him here, clearly, he couldn't handle the problem. And there was no contact. So I called back American Home Shield. I've done it three times now and they each time promised to get back to me and never have. They haven’t been able to resolve the problem. So my impression of AHS as a whole, as long as things go well, they do a good job. But when they get into a sticky issue, they kind of drop the ball. It usually works fine with them but not always.

My furnace went out 5 days ago, at the start of record setting cold weather, and put in service request. Received a call the next day, stating that it would be Monday (5 days later) before a contractor would be able to come due to high volume of requests. After several calls, and speaking to supervisors, etc. I was able to be placed on the "Emergency" list as I have a disabled senior citizen in the home with me. The "Emergency" List meant I would have a contractor out within 24-48 hours.
Contractor came out, looked at the furnace for literally 2 minutes and said there was water in the inducer(?) and the furnace would need to be replaced. Did nothing more than open the cover and look inside the furnace. Did NOTHING more than this. Stated it could be repaired, but that the part would cost almost as much as furnace replacement and that AHS would want to replace instead of just repair. Then stated that my warranty would cover the cost of the furnace, but not the installation of the furnace and that I would need to pay $1200-$1900 for the installation and would pay his company directly.
Do not understand why the contractor states they will not cover installation and that I would need to pay HIM directly for the installation. And... Installation costs 50% of the cost of the new furnace? Really? Stated that AHS would cover replacement and installation for the part, but not the entire furnace and that they would not want to replace just the part. Agreed to have claim submitted to AHS and was told they would contact me about installation of furnace.
Called AHS right after he left, and waited forever to get someone on the phone... so used the "chat" online option. Rep told me that if AHS was going to cover the replacement of the furnace that they would also cover installation cost, but that they could guarantee nothing until they received the diagnosis from the contractor and then AHS would contact me. Heard nothing that day, so called back the next day and had to use the "Chat" option again. Was told the same thing...
It's been 5 days now and still can't get a response from AHS or get anyone to answer the phone. I have been on hold for the last 1 1/2 hours waiting for the "next available representative" and fingers and toes are close to frost bite in the meantime. May have no option, but to remove the space heater from my mother's room, just so I can stay on the phone long enough to get someone to answer me.
Five days without heat, in single digit weather, with a disabled senior citizen in the home. Stores are sold out of space heaters and can't go to a hotel easily due to her disability. What do I have to do to get someone to contact us about our furnace replacement? How many more days do I need to have my mother suffer in a room that I can barely keep at 40-50 degrees with space heater and gas fireplace running? How many more days do I have to try to call before I can get a response from someone? I have only been with AHS for 2 months and I must say I am absolutely not happy with the service I am receiving.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your furnace repaired as well s the noncovered cost associated with the replacement. I would be glad to help resolve the issues as soon as possible.

So this post is for everybody that struggles to get the warranty to pay for stuff. I know phone calls are going over 2 hours. That is not cool. But if you know some of your local contractors you have to request them FIRST if they are on the vendor list before AHS finds one FOR you THEN YOU ARE IN luck because coverage is all WORDING. PUT ALL ISSUES ON ONE WORK ORDER. SEE THEN IT'S COVERED FOR 60 days without another service fee. Example I did one last week for plumbing. I put all 4 toilets on it. I put 4 bathroom sinks on it for leaks. I put kitchen sink also. Water heater, shower valves handles and stoppage for drains. Guess what, 1 SERVICE FEE AND THEY PAID TO REPLACE 4 toilets, 3 showers, 3 faucets, one heater and cleared up stoppage.
I was out $125 service fee and another $335 for the plumber due to some extra cost not covered. I asked plumber how much was everything. It was close to 4k. They were there 3 days and I request the same companies??? Next is AC HEAT AND WALL FURNACE. 3 units 1 service fee next week. You just have to work them and you will get them. I have been doing this for 18 years the game has benefits if you know how to play the system. GOOD LUCK.
Dree,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I've done my homework as far as choosing the companies. I went by what I read online. There's always going to be someone not satisfied. What matters is what do they do about it. How they address it. How do they take care of it or did they just leave it hanging? Based on that, I went with American Home Shield. I recently filed a claim for the AC. The coil was leaking as I was told by the previous technician. I wanted to get it fixed and taken care of. It was a clear three-way communication working with three schedules, most of it the tenant's, technician's and mine. My tenant couldn't meet on a particular day and I worked it out with the technician with his schedule. Everything worked out so I'm very pleased. Through text message the contractor told me that he was coming soon and I communicated with my tenant.
The technician was pretty quick. It's not a small job because everything had to be done per code and it was done in 2 hrs. But then I was surprised by the cost. I wasn't expecting a cheap job. I was surprised that they had to charge for the Freon. But, other than that it's okay. It's warrantied. I hope I don't have to address it in the next couple of years.

American Home Shield puts you on hold for 10 or 15 minutes, and then you submit a claim and they send a vendor. The different people that they send out treat certain areas like the ghetto and they do little or nothing in these places where people live on a couple of dollars. So, I know my property in the Hills was treated worse than the ones in Bloomfield or Dormont or other parts of the city. I had one guy come down at Dinwiddie Street and he put in a fluorescent bulb. He could see that the thing that holds the bulb in was cracked, but he went up there and tested it and said it was pyrite. He went out to the car, wrote me an invoice for $75, pulled the thing off, and then reported it to American Home Shield. I had to call a private guy, and he showed me where it was broken. He replaced the whole thing and that was another $200 or $300 out of my pocket in spite of the monthly fee that I’m paying American Home Shield.
The most recent claim was for a bathroom fan in my daughter’s house. We paid the $60 and the guy that came out, put a piece of toilet paper up there and the fan held the toilet paper up towards the ceiling. He said that the fan was working, and it was nothing he could do. So, I got a private guy to put a brand-new fan and light in that ceiling. Our floor was damaged so I had to put a whole new floor down there with tiles and plywood because the toilet was leaking. I was afraid that if I call American Home Shield, they are going to do nothing but put a flush thing in there and call it a day. There were some jobs that American Home Shield completed and some of the guys did pretty good, but they take shortcuts and things of that nature, and that’s why I decided to cancel all of my contracts. I have four or five accounts with American Home Shield, plus the $75 service call that they did a very poor job on.

I went shopping for a dishwasher myself first so that I could get a price range. American Home Shield's pricing was a little steep since they said it would cost $600 to replace. Like for example with faucet or plumbing and it would say, "kitchen," but it won’t let you say, “I have a leak under my kitchen sink.”
The contractors have always been great but a couple has tried to steer me away from American Home Shield because according to them this home warranty company doesn’t pay a fair wage compared to the others. But I’ve been with American Home Shield since 1998 and for the most part I’ve been happy with them from the different addresses I’ve been at. One of their subcontractors in this area is called Sundance. I’ve had to call them four times and they were rude to my parents so I told American Home Shield that I did not want them coming back out to my house again and AHS noted that on my file.
But I have a bit of a beef with American Home Shield right now. My most recent claim was handled without a problem but I’m going to fight the one before that because they charged me for some code upgrades that my previous water heater already had. I understand the codes have changed and my current heater wasn’t up-to-date. But I have earthquake straps and an overflow container that’s at the top, and they charge me to have those installed on my water heater. To me it was supposed to be for replacement. I asked for a supervisor to call me and I never received a callback. There has been a couple of times where I’ve done that and I’ve had to call them a second or a third time to get a response.
American Home Shield does a lot of changing of their contract without notifying the consumer. I talked my friend into getting American Home Shield for her house and she’s lucky she has it. But they will only cover a certain amount of her furnace problem and before it was a replacement. I used to recommend American Home Shield but my most recent interaction with them has been a really bad taste in my mouth. I feel like now I have to go to fight for stuff that was just given to me before and the service is going down a bit.

We have some issues but not against American Home Shield. I had some trouble with the people they were sending to my house to get things fixed. Some of the contractors were so self-righteous. The people that they sent can’t find anything wrong with my gas furnace because when we installed it in, it runs but it won’t get any hotter than six to seven in the room. If that’s the case, there must be something wrong with the thermostat and they never worked its issue. They sent Cecil and Sons and I told them don’t come back to my house anymore. Then they sent Harbor Air and they did well. But even now, the thermostat will turn the thing on and off without you messing with it. I told them to turn it off but it doesn’t turn off so that’s the problem.
I called American Home Shield and they know about the people that they’ve sent. They’ve sent three different companies out to fix this little problem and each time the company sends, they come three times. Cecil and Sons came twice and Harbor Air came three times so that’s eight times that they’ve sent somebody out. I’ve explained this to everybody but nobody wanted to take that thermostat off and put me a new thermostat on. I don’t believe there’s something wrong with the gas heater. It’s really getting sort of frustrating.
I normally file my claims on the phone and sometimes, I wait for an hour to get American Home Shield to answer me. It takes some time. One night, I waited an hour and 32 minutes. They’re so busy in the winter that you have to wait and wait and they tell you that you were number 38 on the list and your wait was going to be an hour and 40 minutes.
However, the people that I talked to at American Home Shield were always kind. They’re never trying to rush you or talk down to you like you don’t know what you’re talking about. The only problem I have with them is how much money they cost me every year. Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend them. I just wish that we don’t have to wait. It’s cold in my house and it takes a half hour to get somebody on the phone with American Home Shield.

Everything took so long to get straightened out and we went for two weeks without hot water. The contractor didn’t call me so I had to call them, but they were very nice after. And then I was totally unaware that there are a lot of other stuff like the tubes that go to the hot water heater are not covered by American Home Shield, and they are so expensive. I understood in the contract that it was covered, but apparently not and it came up to around $400. That should be clarified. Other than that, the water heater was very efficient once we got the date and everything settled and paid for. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. They’re good and I really appreciate the service.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and have had great experiences with them. The contractors call me up and let me know they're on their way or they send me a text. And I let them know what the problem is and they give me the assessment of whatever's broken down, and if it's going to cost me. They explain things very well. I was having problems with my pool pump and the contractor, Ultra Pool, came out. They were real professionals and took care of it as soon as possible. My pool pump has been running great since the repair.
However, submitting claims is awful. Waiting on the line for an operator is the worst. Sometimes it takes 20 to 30 minutes and by the time I get someone, I'm frustrated so, I just tell them what's going on and they let me know who's going to contact me. Also, my monthly premium at American Home Shield keeps going up. There are a lot of other companies out there and they would give me a better deal.
I was having problems with the plumbing outside and I called, and the girl that I spoke with at American Home Shield told me that I was covered up to 50 feet from my property to the public sidewalk. The guy came out here and said I was not covered because it's on my property and not on the city property. I ended up shelling out $500 to get them to dig the hole four feet deep and replaced the piping, which was a piping that belonged to my house. It was a very unexpected expense that I had to cover. You have to read your contract to make sure you understand what you're covered and what you're not covered for. Other than that, I'm happy with AHS.

I didn’t have any power on the wall in my office that has my computer and my fax machine plugged into. I filed a claim for it over the phone at 6:00 am. The person I talked to was very kind and I was happy. The only thing that makes me unhappy is having to wait for a huge amount of time (half an hour). They sent out an electrician and he found that the socket was loose, and he got that fixed and everything came back on. I’m pleased with the service and I’d recommend American Home Shield.

I recently had some plumbing work done in the bathroom and for a faucet that was leaking. With all of my previous service requests, the service fee was automatically charged to my credit card that they have on file. So in I assumed that my recent claim was charged as well, but it wasn’t and I ended up receiving a late payment notice email from American Home Shield. I called them and was told that in that particular service claim, I did not indicate that it should be automatically charged to my credit card. I didn't accept that as the reason but I ended up paying for it.
Also, I was not happy with the plumbing contractor they sent. They were slow. I had to call them a couple of different times to find out the status of the service order since they had to order a part. They never got back to me nor told me the part was in at one time. On the third time, I've called to find out what was going on and they said they had just ordered the part. Another plumbing issue was an outside's hose bed which took a long time for them to take care of. But once they did the repair, everything was fine.
In all the years that I've been an American Home Shield customer, this was the first time that I’ve been dissatisfied with the quality of the service and the follow up of the servicing company which was Carl's Plumbing. There have been incidences where we had to rely upon AHS to do minor and major work, including new stoves and ovens and replacing major components in our heating system. All of those services were performed in a very timely and professional manner that’s why I was really surprised when I had the deal with Carl's Plumbing. It might be an isolated incident but it was not up to the standards that American Home Shield should be holding their contractors to.
They should really look for another plumbing contractor to service the area that I'm in. But considering everything, I have recommended American Home Shield to quite a few people especially those that have recently bought homes. It's well worth the investment because I could have one major appliance go bad and the yearly premium I’d pay would be more than covered.

The hot water tank had been in the house for awhile. It had a bad odor like sulfur or rotten egg, but the only time we smelled it was when we used the hot water. I had to wait on hold for about an hour when I submitted the claim, but I finally got through and the reps were very professional. They helped me get my problem solved and knew exactly who to call. They were able to send the contractor out the next day and the repair took about three hours. The contractor explained everything and they didn’t leave me standing and guessing what was going on. Since the repair, my tank has been better than before. Everything's good with American Home Shield. They get things done and I've recommended them.

I had American Home Shield a long, long time ago and then I cancelled it and started back up about six months ago. My whole experience with them was fine. I recently had a water leak in my house. I live in an old house so it has t thin walls and beams, so that had to get under the house. However, AHS took a little longer than I had hoped for to have somebody come out. The contractor came out but he got ill, so they lost track of it but they sent out another partner so it wasn't a big deal. They were professional and courteous. As far as what they did, I’m perfectly satisfied.

Our dishwasher was not working at all. It would turn on but there were numerous things wrong. The motherboard, a pump and something else had to be replaced. It was easy to submit the claim. It had to be done online because there's no way you can get through to American Home Shield via phone. I was on hold for an hour and it is not exaggerating.
The contractor was fine. However, when parts are needed, American Home Shield orders the parts to come into their distribution warehouse and then from there, it shipped out to the person or the company that's doing the repairs. I was told that as soon as the parts come in, I will get a call to set up an appointment. But it wasn't until after the second part when the contractor told me that it was needed and that it's going to take up to two weeks to get the part in. I even said that I would go to Sears parts and buy the part and bring it and then we could replace the part and I take the part that he'll get back to Sears and get my money back. And he told we can't do that. So it took up to two to three weeks just to get the contractors to come back out. And with three parts that went out, it took nearly three months to get it replaced and get the dishwasher working properly.
American Home Shield needs to hire some more people, not only in their call center but they need to do something different to get those parts faster because that's just totally unacceptable. And if my contract didn't renew, I wouldn't have renewed with them and then just gone with a plan with Sears or another company. I'd tell others that if they have something that's over five years old or if they think something's going to go out that's over $500 in that year, then American Home Shield is the place to go. Otherwise, don't.

Our stove wasn't functioning properly and I had to put a new padlock. I used the AHS website to submit a claim and it was easy to navigate. The contractor they sent was a nice guy. And he had to come back because he had to get a part and now the stove is working.

I got to keep the house warm for my baby but the heater would be on for a bit and then it would turn off. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield by calling the number that was on the paper and it walked me through it all. The automated answering service is great. The contractor was amazing. I told him what was going on and he came out and looked at it. He said it was a limit switch. He set a different part ordered, and then he got it and they were back the next day. He had a temporary fix to make the heater work so I can heat the house up and keep my kids warm, and then he came back the next day and installed the part. Also, they were extremely professional and courteous. The heater has been working great ever since. I can now turn it on every night to warm the house when my kids go to bed. I use it all the time especially since it's winter time now. It was a painless and effective experience.

The last experience I had with American Home Shield has not been a pleasant one. We still have problems with the furnace. I'm not happy with it because it would take a couple of days just to get through. It’s really hard to get through AHS but once I do, the customer service is great. I’m having issues with the contractor that’s actually doing the service. They tried to fix the furnace about three times and it’s still pending. I had to call to find out what was going on, spinning round and round, back and forth.
The third individual that came out wanted to take care of the furnace before Christmas which I appreciate because the weather had been extremely cold, so it was a little bit hard to be without a furnace. They came before Christmas, around the 21st, and they said that they had to order some parts and because of the holidays the business might be closed. This was not a problem but then Christmas has gone by and I’ve been meaning to get a courtesy call back from the contractor asking what the status was. I tried to call back a week later and left a message but I never got a call back. This is very frustrating especially when I have an emergency like that and this has been happening since before Christmas. It's to the point where I have other home insurance that are actually offering me their services, so I want it to get done and see if I can switch over to another business that’s also providing appliance insurance.

I had a problem with the compressor of my AC and the evaporator coil. I filed a claim with AHS and it was very easy to do. I responded to one of their questionnaires on the website, and the rep took care of me. I worked with Done Right Air Conditioning and there was a two-week delay on everything because the parts were coming out of the Houston warehouse and everything was shut down due to the hurricane so there was quite a bit of a delay and it caused a little bit of discomfort. Other than that, I was very happy with what they did for me.
The AHS representatives have been very professional and very helpful. I especially like it when they call back to see what went on, and if I was satisfied and treated right. AHS doesn't try to avoid fixing something because they have to help me pay for it and I appreciate that very much. I’ve had a very good experience with AHS and it's been good dealing with them.

I could see the numbers and the digits on my front-loading clothes dryer but it would not actually turn on. No air would blow and the tumbler wouldn’t roll. It happened on a Friday but because of the 48 business hours turnaround time, it was Tuesday when a repair person called us which I didn’t like. On three different times, parts had to be ordered. It took almost a complete month for it to get fixed. It’s our house but we rented it out so that was time missed from the tenant's work waiting for all that.
My biggest complaint, aside from the turnaround timeframe in trying to get somebody to diagnose the issue, was that American Home Shield maybe selected a repairman from the bottom of the barrel. It could have been determined from the very get-go of what was needed and they could have given us a choice between replacing all the internal components to essentially give us a dryer or a cashout. But now, I have a brand-new dryer which has nothing in it to be fixed.

I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink recently. I did not like the first company that American Home Shield sent out so I called AHS to get someone else to come and give a second opinion. I was on hold for as long as an hour and 20 minutes. But other than that, when I would reach somebody, they were totally helpful, very nice and professional. The final contractor they sent out was awesome. They told me exactly what they thought they were going to do along the step of the way, what would AHS cover and what would be out of pocket for me. They were great and they did a good job.

I had a problem with my furnace. I filed the claim online and it was quick and efficient. I didn’t have any issues submitting the request. I was contacted the next business day but the issue was with the holiday, too many people went time-off and they didn’t have enough people to cover it. So, when they called me, they promised to be within five business days. I understood that but I called AHS then I asked for the service the next business day, and that was when they offered me another company to come as soon as possible.
The first contractor was disappointing. He was four months on the job and the way that he described the problem, it was inaccurate. Basically, the problem that I had was the blower on the furnace and it had the fan that pushes the hot air to the entire house. A few blades of the fan were broken and it would make noise. There was not enough air from the dock and it was a lot of noise, and he described it as, “This is an issue and it looks like it’s another object caused this.” So, once he said that, I talked to him, “Do you find the object?” “No, I think another object caused this to happen.” So, what could have happened? I’m a homeowner and I cannot go there and put an object or something, or the object came from somewhere. He said, "I had to report it. It looks like something.”
At that point, I said, “If you put it that way, that’s fine. But I want this to be fixed.” So, he took it apart, took it to his car and then he returned and said, “I cannot take it because my company had to report to AHS and to see if they cover.” It’s covered and I called the boss of the contractor and he told me, “No problem. We just need to report it like that.” A few hours later, I received a call from AHS saying that the work was not covered and the contract. I complained and they sent me the second opinion. When the guy came, I asked him, “What do you think?” “Oh, this happens.” The second guy did a good job and he fixed it. It took a few days because they had to order the part. The guy came with the part and it was a great job.

I have American Home Shield for 16 years and they're the best. They’ve been very kind, supportive and prompt to any questions or problems we’ve had. When submitting the claim, I like talking to them personally because I have a preference on some of the vendors they used. We had a problem with our pool filter recently. The wait was a little bit longer because it was a weekend so I just did it on the automated system. Then, Brent Pool Service called and said they'd be out here the next morning to solve the problem. They're very prompt and efficient so that worked. It also helped a little to get the company that I like. Overall, it was a fairly quick and excellent service with AHS.

We had a problem with the ice maker with our refrigerator. It got stuck, was leaking and would only give us crushed ice. AHS originally assigned us to a contractor who didn't know how to work on Bosch appliances. They were clueless which was embarrassing. We called AHS back and said, "Hey, we've had this company J & B Appliance in our area through you. They know how to work on these appliances. Can you assign it to them?" They said that they the company was currently off assignments because they were down a person. I called J & B and they said they were willing to take us again back and so we were finally able to get it reassigned. They came out right away and had a technician who knew what to do. They showed up with the parts and were able to get everything fixed. American Home Shield should make sure they'd assign somebody who knows what they're doing.
