I’ve had American Home Shield but after I was in my house for a while I dropped them and then I re-signed this past year. They have a better coverage plan and wider scale of things that they cover than most companies. Recently I was having some issues with my dryer because it was not really drying well. I submitted the claim and a lady called me from the company that night and set up the appointment for the next day. The service guy that was sent out was really great and he helped me resolve it rather quickly. They took care of it and it was quite simple and the appointment was probably less than an hour. It was faster than I’ve ever experienced in a while and since the repair the dryer has been perfect. Everything went well with what I needed.

When I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue, it went through a phone bank and I got a response within an hour. The contractor came out the next day and he was pretty professional. This is the second time AHS had to send someone out for the same repair though. Otherwise, AHS does the job.

A couple of years ago, my furnace went out. I came home from a road trip and it was 2:00 in the morning. My house was freezing because my heater didn't work. AHS said they could get to us in a couple of days. I said no because I have kids. So, I called someone who came to fix it. I tried to see if American Home Shield would reimburse me the $500 it cost me because I didn't want my family to freeze. However, they gave me the finger and told me that I had to use their guys. They have their rules but I'm not going to let my family freeze because it was going to take two days for them to get to my house.

Other than the wait for the technician to get here, American Home Shield is fine. Recently, I had a plumbing issue in my kitchen. The water was coming through underneath the sink and so they came out. I get that they're busy as people have frozen pipes in winter. But I wish there was some way they could get to it quickly because it sucks when I have to wait a day or two. But they've always sent the same plumbing company because I live out in the middle of nowhere. They were great and professional and have always gotten things done.

Having a warranty is a peace of mind for me, and dealing with American Home Shield has been great. We were cooking on Thanksgiving Day and one of the banks of the plugs went out. I flipped the circuit breaker and I heard a pop. I turned it on again and it snapped again. I troubleshot it a little bit to figure out what was wrong, and it was the plugs on the one side. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim. The gentleman who came out was really nice and super informative. I feel a little bit safer with American Home Shield. They have professional guys coming out in a timely manner. I’m extremely happy and I told three guys at my work about American Home Shield, and one of them already went through.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was the air conditioner and I had to fight for it. The pan was leaking which damaged my brand-new hardwood floors and they said it was because of poor workmanship on another part, but another air conditioner people showed that it had deteriorated, which is not my fault and it was covered under AHS. I had to get outside air conditioner people to say it wasn’t what their people said it was before they would pay it. I was totally unsatisfied with AHS’ response.

I had two different people come out. They were very nice but they were not adequate. They did what AHS wanted them to do and most people would just say, “Okay. It's not covered." I had somebody else come and prove that it should have been. AHS finally paid the claim but it ended up taking four weeks to get it resolved, something that should have been taken care of in two days. It was a royal pain in the ass. The whole reason that I have American Home Shield is to cover these incidences and I hope that in the future if I have a problem with one of my other appliances, I won’t have the same problems that I had. I'm spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars every year and I hope I don’t go through again what I went through.

I had a bad cartridge in my tub faucet and I entered the claim online fairly easily. American Home Shield called me and the rep was very professional. They told me they'd be scheduling it then the company contacted me two days later by phone. iPlumb was great. They had the part on hand and the contractor fixed it in about 15 minutes. It's been working flawlessly since then. It was the shower controller for my master bath which I use everyday so the service has certainly been helpful.

American Home Shield is good but we had a previous issue where I wasn't really happy with their solution. We had a basement unfinished and there was an exposed hot water pipe that had a small leak in it. A different plumbing company came out that instance and he pointed out six spots along the 10-foot long copper pipe where there was white residue at the bottom. Water was corroding the pipe and it was going to give way at some point. But he said because of the nature of the warranty, he was only allowed to cut out the small section that was actually leaking instead of replacing the entire length of pipe. I was disappointed with that because, clearly, that was not the way any homeowner would want to repair that particular problem. It would be easier to pull out the whole pipe and put in a new pipe that wasn't about to fail. AHS limits what's able to be fixed because of the nature of the warranty.

But I also had a leak at an exterior spigot where you hook up a hose to the front of your house and something had gone wrong with the actual external control for that. The contractor popped it off and replaced it right there on the spot. In summary, two out of three claims have been great, and AHS still did fix the other problem.

In my recent claim with American Home Shield, the vanity faucet in the bathroom was frozen and it wouldn’t move so I turned it off and I bought a new faucet to replace it. But when the repair person came, he told my son that it was fixable and he could simply clean it. However, it still hasn’t worked since he did that. It's still hard to turn on and off and now, it's dripping. We also had a claim with the washer-dryer and the service was good and we haven’t had any problems. Everything is working fine with it so far. Another claim was for the refrigerator and that was taken care of as well. The interaction with the contractors was positive, however, the problem is still lingering with the bathroom issue. I need to call them back since we’re trying to sell my home and we can’t sell it with that problem. But, all other things considered, everything was to my satisfaction and I will tell my friends that it’s worth getting this.

We had a $4,000 refrigerator that went out and we filed our first claim to AHS. I submitted everything online. They sent a technician out, he came in and looked, and ordered the part. He came back and three days later, he had to go in the inner part of the refrigerator. When he got in there, he found that there were some other issues and there were some other parts of the refrigerator that couldn't be replaced. It was the problem of the refrigerator that he had issues with before. He put it in for a replacement to AHS.

AHS got back to me quickly and told me that they found a couple of refrigerators, but they didn't have all the features. They offered us another model though. But I needed to go up there and see it and make sure it's going to fit into the space that we had for the refrigerator. Also, without us being able to see the fridge and pick it out, it may or not be a new one. AHS said that we could get our own with a $2,600 allowance. So we're shopping around for a new one that's acceptable for that amount of money. My wife hasn't found the one she wants. This has been going on for a month now but so far, I’m satisfied with how things are going.

I have American Home Shield for five years or more on my main house and two rental properties. When I had a problem with my water heater that wasn’t keeping my water hot, I called them and their reps were very courteous. They placed the claim with one vendor but the vendor wasn’t able to come out during my days off so I called American Home Shield back. They called around and got in touch with a vendor who could accommodate me being at home and available for them to come and check out my water heater.

The contractor who came was a very nice young gentleman. He checked out my water heater and had to go down into my basement to see where the main water valve was. He waited to get an authorization and once he received the authorization from American Home Shield, he told me what was what. But American Home Shield did not cover the complete cost of the repair because it was outside of my warranty. So after the tech told me what would and wouldn't be covered, he asked me if I wanted him to proceed with the work. I told him I did, so he repaired it and told me exactly what was done. After that, my heater has been performing with no problems.

When the helper first looked at it, he said he didn't know if he would have to cut into the wall or not. Then the other guy came in there and said he doesn't like cutting into walls and he wanted to try something else. He switched a line and it seems to be fine now. I was very pleased with the plumber. Everything with them and the company went very smoothly. My son has had a good experience with American Home Shield too.

When my air conditioner was fixed during the summer, somebody left a screw loose in my heater. I submitted my claim on the phone and the reps were good. They took care of everything. AHS's contractor came in and the young man was very good. He had to screw it back and he took care of my heater. He said that if I didn't call AHS to do it, I probably would have had to buy a new something in there, but he caught that because the screw was going round and round when the fan was going around.

However, it takes so long for AHS to send people out. They give you a window of time and you’re sitting there waiting all day long when you have other appointments and stuff to do. Also, they didn’t charge me at first, but later on the guy charged me. I told the guy, “Do I have to pay?” He said, “No, it says right here you don’t have to pay,” but then later on my account, it shows that they took $100 out. Other than that, my heater has been working wonderfully since the repair and AHS did a good job. I’ve been trying to get people to join because of all the good things they’re doing.

Back in December I called them to make a claim and then the people came to my house. After two weeks I called them back but they said, “Actually, we are not coming back and just call to Home Shield.” So I called Home Shield and then they told me that they’re going to send somebody for second opinion. That plumbing team told me, “We’re going to fix your water heater or a cash out for you.” But it was costing me a bit more than that. But they only offer me a certain amount. The rest of the money, I have to pay from my pocket.

Sears installed Kenmore 74 gallon for me. I paid some money from pocket. The other stuff, I needed to fix more things, like the faucet was leaking and stoppage, the faucet was not doing right, very minor things are needed. They didn’t call me back on it. So I called back yesterday and they said, “We’re going to put it through with the authorization department and we’ll come and take care of your problem.”

I would really appreciate it if they’d finish the plumbing. I paid my monthly already and the service charge, $75. Then they sent me a bill like I did not pay the $75. I called them and they looked up and said, “You have paid already.” So I hope they remove it because I paid three times already for $75. Other than that they are very good people, skilled, courteouse, cheerful and have good public communication. Everyone I spoke with was very nice, especially Anisha. She went out of her way and said, “I will try to get you plumbing quite shortly.”

Previously my furnace stopped working and they came immediately and fixed the furnace. I called at the same time for the duct problem but they said the duct is a separate claim. And they made me pay $75 twice. The duct people came but I did not like them. They were trying to sell me the new furnace and telling me all the different stories. They were totally unreasonable people. I wish that Home Shield would not use them anymore.

I sent American Home Shield an email, a long letter, regarding what I feel about them. And so other people came and they fixed it within a few minutes. They said it’s a big hole in the duct that’s the reason we were not getting heat. So I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. They’re wonderful and we had a great experience with them. My son had a house and I recommended it to him and he got it.

They have sent other ones but the one from Tishomingo was excellent since he doesn't settle for the cheapest way to go. He wants to make sure it doesn't break again and really fixes it. Our washing machine broke. We called AHS and they said that they didn’t have anyone in the area to do that kind of repair. They told us to call a technician but they listed eight people not to call in the area. When I finally got a hold of somebody and asked them to do it, they said they wouldn’t deal with AHS because the guy said that if he had a nickel for every time, AHS didn't pay. They’ve turned off everybody in the area that works on washing machines so there was nobody for us to call. We were on our own and we didn’t know what to do. We had washes that we needed to do and I can't wait six months so, we purchased a washing machine and sent AHS the bill. My husband mailed the claim and they said that we didn't follow the instructions. We were supposed to call somebody and that person was supposed to call AHS back and get a number to do the job. They said that the claim was null and void.

My husband wrote them back and he said that he had more information, but they still said that the claim was null and void, and that we were not getting any money. I went on Facebook and there's a group called “I hate American Home Shield" When bought the house the seller gave the policy to us and now, we wish we had taken the money and not the policy because it's worthless. In addition, when we called them, the wait time was over an hour and my husband had to put the phone on speaker. Don’t deal with AHS. They're horrible people.

Our experience with AHS has been abhorrent, and there are so many failures on its part I don't even know where to start. This is just a brief version of what's transpired. We made a fridge claim on 10/30/17, and as of 1/19/18, we still have a leaking fridge. After major failures and fraud by the first dispatched contractor, they dispatched a 2nd who never made contact. After arguing for almost 2 hours, they finally agreed to send a 3rd contractor to inspect our issue. Their call staff are robotic, simply read their script, and totally devoid of any personal interaction whatsoever. After being on hold for an average of over 1.5 hours each time I call, I've been conveniently disconnected at least 5 times while waiting to talk with a supervisor. I've left messages for supervisors, yet no one has called me back. Not only have they closed our claim twice without ANY explanation or letter.

But, after much prodding, I finally figured out they've denied our claim for improper reasons under the contract. What no one seems to understand is that the symptom of the problem (rust) is not the primary issue. The cause (leaking water coming from somewhere) is the issue, yet not one person at AHS seems to understand that. Of course, in their illusory and unilateral contract, the only way to appeal the issue is per arbitration which costs thousands and thousands of dollars and months of time (or small claims which they must approve).

It has become clear to us that AHS's M.O. is to make it a practice to improperly deny claims, ignore customer communications, and make it as difficult as possible to get any information on a claim, in the hopes you'll go away. I haven't been this dissatisfied and frustrated with a company and its customer services practices ever. We certainly will never obtain another AHS warranty, and will be notifying all our friends, colleagues, acquaintances and others about this horrible experience.

We have been trying for nearly a year to get an ice maker repaired. First they sent a contractor who couldn't fix it. Then they sent GE who said they will not work on it because someone opened it up. Then they sent another contractor who said they couldn't fix it and would tell AHS to send someone else. Instead, AHS closed the ticket as completed. So we started all over and went through the same cycle two more times. We have now had 10 visits with no resolution to the problem. Each time we have to get them to restart the ticket it's an hour on hold. Each time a contractor came, we had to take time off work.

Last week a mini-fridge that's under warranty stopped cooling. Today a contractor from Moonstar came only to inform us that they don't work on mini-fridges. Why would AHS send a contractor who they knew could not fix the problem you ask? So do we. We have attempted to escalate with zero response from the company.

It doesn't seem possible that any company could be this incompetent by accident, so it appears that they have a deliberate strategy to wear you down in the hope that you'll give up and pay to have things fixed outside the warranty. Avoid at all costs.

After American Home Shield couldn’t get in touch with the contractor, AHS finally canceled that contractor and sent out a second contractor who repaired the problem on the first visit. I’ve had a long relationship with AHS but I had a water heater claim that I wasn’t satisfied at all with when they told me that they only covered a certain amount. I ended up taking the cash in lieu of work. It wasn’t even close to having it replaced. I’m also very dissatisfied with how American Home Shield handles phone calls. It takes hours and hours to get through to anybody. They also doubled my price. I had a property and it was a 75, less than the property that I had in Wisconsin.

I have a number of properties that had been with them before. But this one, they almost doubled. They said that was because I had so many claims and that at the end of a year’s period of time, it would be reduced because they would have recapped some of their cost or expenses. Then when that timeframe came, I was told that person should never have said that and the price is not going to be reduced so I’m planning on removing myself from that contract and another property that I have. On the other hand, I’ve been satisfied with the contractors they sent for the most part.

It was very quick and easy. He switched all of the plumbing out, and he was very professional, and he responded very quickly. It was an excellent job and I would use them again even if it was something separate. It was such a wonderful experience with AHS.

AHS is a good company and people should use them. Once, I had an issue with the claim I submitted for my coil. They addressed and rectified it. They worked with me and worked around my schedule. They sent the contractors twice, who were then able to identify the right problem, which was the igniter not being strong enough for the unit. Then, the most recent claim I submitted was for my furnace. They sent out great contractors who then replaced two igniters in it. Everything’s fine and I’m satisfied. I filed the claim online, which was easy. Their over-the-phone service, however, has a very long wait time, which is over 30 minutes. Nevertheless, I'd tell a friend to buy American Home Shield.

My heater had several different failures and the contractors kept replacing different parts then the system would fail in several days and they couldn’t figure it out. A person can’t be without heat for almost a month. It was cooler than normal so I was living at a friend’s house. It was a very difficult experience because the first company told me that they couldn’t fix it. However, they were reporting back to American Home Shield that the machine was functioning when it wasn’t. I got transferred to another company and the gentleman just came today and replaced something on the outside.

American Home Shield’s motto is very confusing and I ended up having a large portion of the cost out of pocket. It was kind of dishonest. It was really much more like insurance. They were not really going to replace the device. I might get an estimate of $4,800 and American Home Shield will pay the $800, so I’m out $4,000. I understand that for them to stay in business, they can’t be paying out that much money all the time. But at the same time, they should change their advertising to be more truthful. I felt that I was on my own.

I recommended my friend to American Home Shield but she had to wait almost two hours to speak to somebody on her phone and I felt bad because I had recommended her to Home Shield. Customers pay every month for their service so their customer service should be better when calling in initially to make a claim and having somebody come out. You could do it on the computer but sometimes you want to speak to a live person and in that respect, they need to hire more people to work on their end so that they can accommodate us as customers and make wait times shorter.

I usually have to wait for a long time too but I got smart. I was able to find a different number where I was able to speak to somebody with all the existing claims. That part was quicker even for a new claim and I try to beat the system a little bit with that. My garage door was making a really loud noise so contractors had to come out. The contractor who adjusted it was nice. He had to come out again because it was still making that noise after he fixed it and he was considerate. This company was good but in the last couple of times before that, I wasn’t happy with the people that American Home Shield sent. One time, my water heater broke and they sent somebody from San Diego, which was two hours away from where I live in Riverside. It was ridiculous.

I had a pipe leak that went to my water heater and that caused some corrosion. The water heater needed to be replaced but American Home Shield said that the cost of replacing the water heater and the pipe were not covered because it was secondary damage. The rep was pleasant enough but what she was saying felt like double-talk. She kept on saying if the water heater had gone out because of normal wear and tear, they would have replaced it. They also would have replaced the pipe had it just been the pipe. But the pipe leak caused the problem with the water heater therefore neither of them was covered. It sounded like circular logic to me and it made no sense to me so I was not happy with this last claim at all.

On the other hand, I’m very happy with the provider Lone Star Water Services. They were very prompt and they explained everything. The water heater was in my attic and I wasn’t able to go up to even see what was going on but they made nice pictures and showed me everything. They came back to replace the water heater when they said they would and they were absolutely great.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since I moved back to Texas in 2013 and I’ve generally had a good experience with them. I like the ability to call one number and have reliable technicians sent out. There have been some occasions when I’ve had to pay an addition to the service fee. But the way this last thing played out was just surprising and weird. They didn’t fix this one big-ticket item and it was like $1600 to get it replaced so that makes me a little leery at this point.

My experience with American Home Shield hasn’t been the best. I understand there are some things that their warranty is not going to cover, like going on the roof and all that, but there were other avenues that they could’ve done in order to fix the issue, like pulling the toilet or something like that. It was just my vent that was clogged. I’m never going to purchase this again because I’m going to have to end up paying someone to make the repair regardless. I paid $75 for people to come over for the service call and they would say that in the fine details it's not covered so it’s pointless. I called to submit the claim, and getting someone to come out has never been an issue.

However they didn’t put much time into it and then they got contractors that come out that just want to make some money. The guy came over and quoted me for $400. I called someone else and I was able to get it even cheaper. I’m not going to pay a $75 fee when they're not even going to do anything. They should provide better information in regards to the actual warranty that they provide. They don’t really provide much besides the basic-- if someone has a fridge and it’s broken, will they replace the fridge of equal value?

Also, I had a leak in my sink and I submitted the claim with AHS which was simple to do. The microwave went out and I submitted the claim online but then I called as I did not want the person that was assigned to me. I’ve had a bad experience with that company and so I did not want them. Apparently, when you go on the computer, whoever is next to come up is automatic, and I kept getting the same person as the next person. Their reps told me I needed to cancel the prior transaction. Once I did that, they set it up, found the next person for me, and asked me if there was anybody in particular that I wanted. Since I didn’t know all the contractors yet, so I asked them to pick somebody other than the company that I had a bad experience with. They were very accommodating and they gave me another company, and that one was wonderful.

When the new contractor came out, he knew something was wrong with the appliance and that there was no way to repair it and it needed to be replaced. AHS sent a questionnaire to ask the size, the depth, and the particulars of the microwave. They gave me a choice of several different types of appliances. I could pick one from the list that they had or to opt out and get the money and pick my own. I just picked the one from their list. Then I thought they were just delivering it, but they delivered and put it up. When I came home, it was already there so it came out to my benefits.

AHS fixed the problem. They also gave an opportunity to pay for the services prior to coming. I like to pay online and get down with it as sometimes I don’t always have cash. AHS is something that everybody should have. It's a great insurance as people would never know about appliances, how old it is, or when it's going to come due. It gives that safety net that people don’t have to worry about getting a repair.

My interactions with the representatives had been fine but it took an hour and a half on the average until they took my call. Although when I called to renew, sign up and pay, I had somebody on the phone within two minutes. It was a little telling that they were quick when you give them money but it took a long time for a claim. I also had good interaction with the contractors but they had not paid much attention to the leaky faucets which cropped up overtime. I've owned multiple homes at the same time. I understand that when it comes to water, it was not always easy to anticipate what might have. They did a good job but they still have to come back for a few trips in between ordering parts. I appreciate that but I like to get things done quickly when it’s possible.

However, their case management had been a source of confusion. I dealt with things online after the long wait and they were pretty speedy in getting back with me. But then, the contractor may come or maybe they would tell me they'll come and when I looked at the case management online, AHS closed it. I know the job is unfinished so I didn’t know if AHS tried to get it over the contractor when the contractor is the one who knows when the job will be finished. I joined American Home Shield to get service cover for my 4 houses. It has been unpleasant experience. Lately, I opened a claim in regard to a Stoppage in my house. AHS assigned DRAIN & PLUMBING SERVICES INC to help. They sent a technician to my house. He came and said since the cleanout pipe is inside the house and not outside - this will not be cover by AHS. He left without doing any work, however his company called me and gave a quote of $400 for the first hour and $200 for each hour after that. I felt they are overcharging me. So I called a local plumber and agreed to do the job for $170. In addition, AHS still want to charge me $75 for the technician visit to tell me it is not covered. I am thinking to drop them.

Updated on 03/28/2018: I think AHS needs to be selective with the companies providing services. This is the second time I have issue with plumbing and AHS connected me with the same service company. In summary, the company indicated nothing is covered under the warranty and ended paying $475 to change a Faucet in the bathroom. Very disappointed, I have 4 houses with AHS, I am thinking to part away from them.

First crappy, idiot vendor said it was the control panel, oops, after months to get that replaced, no that wasn't it. Then it was the door skin, more months for approval and ordering, oops again, that wasn't it. Then of course the incompetents went out of business. After a week of nothing, I call AHS again, (can't believe there isn't an email for this), and wait on hold another hour just to tell them their ** vendor didn't call. They get him on the line, I think woke him up. He promises to call the next days to let me know when he'll be out. He doesn't. I call him, wake him up again, he puts the phone down and while he's shuffling papers I look him up on Yelp...EVERY single review is 1 star out of 5, comments saying to stay away. WTF? Why is this so hard? I'm now on hold AGAIN with AHS, 30 minutes in, to tell them this **, incompetent loser is not coming into my house and that they need to find a decent solution, I'm not that picky, how about an average of 3 out of 5 stars, I can work with that. They had me on hold for an hour before. And sometimes it will take three days to get people to out. We filed a claim before for one of my rental properties and we ended up buying a new unit as it took a long time to get the reimbursement payment from AHS. Their representatives were okay though and the contractors being sent out by AHS gets the job done for the most part.

But when we had a problem with one of our pipes and they cut a hole in our wall and cut out the sheetrock, nobody ever came back to fix it until we had to keep calling. Then, when they came back to fix it, they put another piece of sheetrock up and they plug it and they just left it. But as far as sanding or painting it, I had to do all that myself when it should have been repaired timely. And I didn’t know that prior to signing up with American Home Shield because I probably would have made a different decision.

Our garage door opener wasn’t opening and closing properly. The contractor American Home Shield sent said it was a broken spring. They fixed it and it was wonderful. But we still have an ongoing problem with the refrigerator. The contractor did a lot and some of it was corrected. There's water on the floor many times when I opened the freezer because it's a bottom freezer and it still happens so we cleared it out the best we can since I don't want to pay another $75. Another issue was that the ice cube part had broken and he replaced it. The contractors that came out were very good and professional. They seemed to know what they were doing although this refrigerator is still an issue.

Then there was one time that they had to place the water heater but then they added on a large charge for something. I never knew whether it’s the policy of American Home Shield or the policy of the company that came out. I did a little research on it and it should not have happened. I called the very same company and didn’t say I had a home warranty. The company gave me a whole different price and I thought that was terrible. The company said that there was nothing that could be done about it. That was the way it was.

I was over a barrel because it was under what I would have paid if I would not have used the home warranty as they charged me to retrofit something for hooking it up. That part came out of my pocket and it was several hundred dollars. I confronted the company about it and they said that it's too bad and asked if I wanted them to come or not. When I called the company again and said I needed this done, there was no charge for that. But then I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I’m happy with them. It’s definitely worth it to get a home warranty. I’m a realtor so I say to my customers why they need it.

I submitted my most recent claim, a backed up drain system in plumbing which had to be just snaked, online and it was easy. I also did it online during the last couple of times I have used American Home Shield. The contractor was competent. He got right to it and fixed it pretty quickly so everything is fine. The only thing is, it’s getting more and more expensive. The price is going up fairly regularly from when we started it. Back then, the initial fee was $25. Now, it’s up to $75 which seems to me to be a fairly steep increase over that period of time. But when you need it, you need it just like any other insurance policy.

American Home Shield's reps have always been very good and my recent claim went smoothly, but getting a hold of a person and the wait times are unbelievably long. And their website doesn't have all the choices I needed and it's not detailed enough. Also many times, I would have five issues and they all would never get recorded. It has been a headache. It would be great if they could send an email to verify the conversation saying they were going to come and also mention the things they would be fixing. And that way, there will be no doubt with what was said and if it wasn't said, the email could be returned saying they didn't record it properly.

The contractors were very good. But the last one caused our kitchen to flood. He had declared that our refrigerator wasn't working and it had a waterline to the ice maker and water. And it somehow became loose after he did that. The water was coming out and it was going into the next bedroom behind it. And we didn't know for quite some time that the bedroom carpeting was soaked. Other than that, the refrigerator was replaced so we can eat cold food now. And I'm happy with the end result even though getting there was a hassle. But, in the end, it's worth it.

I had issues with both the pool plumbing and our ductwork in the heating system. I went to AHS's website to submit the claims and it was very easy doing it. The website is fairly user-friendly. They came out and did a diagnosis on the heating and cooling system. The house is 30 years old and there were areas that are inconsistent. They confirmed that we didn't have any airflow obstructions or other kinds of obvious issues. The only solution that we collectively identified was re-ducting the house, which is an option AHS wouldn't cover. That was really helpful because I didn't know if I had a dead pass of blocking airflow, or the system is obsolete. I appreciate that somebody came out and helped me to diagnose what was going on and what my options were. Repairs were done and the performance has been good since.

They also diagnosed the pool and gave me options. Although there were no repairs done in the pool, I'm now understanding what's going on with the system and what my options are for addressing issues in the future. Also, I was introduced to my everyday maintenance vendor through AHS and I was so pleased with the service provided. We've been repeat customers for quite a while now and we've always seen value in the coverage that AHS provides. It is a practical way to ensure against system failures in our home and it's a good value for the cost. We've been satisfied with the customer service and the services to keep us coming back.

We have the policy with American Home Shield and it has been great. I can’t really afford to replace everything when it breaks, and now the house is getting older. Submitting claims online is an option but my computer screen is small and it's easier for me to call. But so far, I haven’t had to speak with a representative when I put a call in. They have the automated system. And apparently, we don’t have any really odd problems that have come up and all of them have been on the automated system. So I just click through and I’ve never had to be transferred to a person.

When I put a claim with American Home Shield,l I get an email from them within 24 hours telling me about the person who has been assigned to come out and take a look, the phone number, and that they will be contacting me within X number of hours. And depending on what service is requested, the time varies. When I had a problem with the heater specifically, I got a call ten minutes after I got the email. And I scheduled the service. The contractors have all been wonderful. I’ve recommended several of my friends to sign up for American Home Shield especially for those who have houses that are leaving the manufacturer warranty or the builder warranty.

He found out that something was in the quad pipe, so he cleared that and cleared the codes. I was impressed. He knew exactly what was going to go on and what the code was right off the bat. The washer worked fine after the service. But I wish the service was a bit faster. I have five people at my house, so when the washer was down for five days, the laundry built up.

The ceiling fans and the sockets in the kitchen had gone out and I filed the claim for service. American Home Shield assigned the person to come, but he didn’t show up and he told me he would come the next week. Then he was late again, and I called American Home Shield to see if I could get someone else, and they said no. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and he was supposed to call me back within 24 to 28 hours, and he didn’t. I can’t go online because sometimes, I can’t put in what I need to say and it won’t let me do what I need to do. I’m not computer-savvy and I have to speak to someone. I’ve been really displeased with the amount of time I always have to wait on hold. When the electrician came, he simply had five days to do the work. He was here last Saturday, and he said between now and Saturday, he would be back. That’s seven more days I have to wait and he has got 24 hours left since then.

This situation happens often. The wait time is too long, and then, when I tell them I don’t want a particular vendor, they say I can’t get anybody else. If I’ve had a bad experience with a vendor, it’s my right to tell American Home Shield, and I should also be able to get a person back if I used them and I was pleased. Why do I have to take somebody else just because I’m in a 71109 zip code? Shreveport is a small town, so regardless of the zip code, if you drive 30 minutes, you’re in a different town. I’ve got two or three other companies that do the same thing that American Home Shield does. Right now, I’m pretty upset and I’m really not sure what I’m going to do. I’m just going to see how this situation goes.

I've had American Home Shield since 2016 and I've been happy with it. Everybody has been willing to work with me, always very cordial and polite. I live in Northern Colorado and the people that they’ve sent out from that part of the world have always contacted me within the 24-hour period and sometimes even sooner via email. The most recent claim I had was for my dryer. It built up a lot of lint inside for many years and it started making funny noises. They then sent out contractors who put a new fan belt in. They had to come twice, but every time they’ve come out, they’ve done an exceptional job.

A switch also once blew up and they sent out a contractor for it ad we had a good experience. I submitted a claim online once and now they keep on telling me that I still owe them $100 and I still had to call them for that. I didn’t want to take that chance again so I just call and do it over the phone. It seems to be a little less confusing for that.

I’ve already recommended AHS to several people. If you have an issue with something, especially for people who have older appliances or an older home, AHS is worth the money. It basically pays for itself over time if you have a problem with something. A friend also used AHS several times and never had a problem. So we had a good service down on this.

I've used American Home Shield for my rental house and the property manager always tells me how difficult it is to get to them. They have very long wait times. You could spend 35 or 40 minutes holding. The problem with these kinds of outfits is they look for reasons not to honor your request. They’ll find some reason why it's not. One time when I used American Home Shield, I had to sort of battle with them to get them to replace the item that was covered. In any event, I'm not happy with American Home Shield, but I don’t dare not have it. They're not going to give you anything that you don’t push and shove a little bit to get because they're a for-profit organization. They're not going to bend over backwards to come in and fix your water heater. They're going to tell you that your water heater is old and needed to be replaced. They’ll give you what they think is worth to replace that water heater. That's the way these outfits work.

Recently, American Home Shield had sent out All Brands to fix my refrigerator. I had to have some Freon and sealant and a valve of some kind. I started out with this appointment last week and they were coming on Friday. On Friday, I called because it said reschedule and I kept getting put to the "Leave a message and we'll get back to you," which never happened so I called AHS and they have the same thing. I talked to them on Monday and whoever was supposed to do it had somebody died in his family so they rescheduled me for Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the guy that was coming on Tuesday had his truck quit at 95 and 210. It was a comedy of errors that none of us, if anybody, have any control over. In the end, the gentleman that owns the company came at 5:00. And the thing is, they've had people with flu too, which had been going around. In fact, the guy who did it had had the flu and that was his first week back. The doctor said he could come back since he wasn't contagious.

AHS had also sent out people to fix my disposal. I've had them before and the technician was very nice. He told me that I needed to buy an Allen wrench, so I could help myself which I thought was really nice. They also checked out the commode that they've looked at twice and they kept saying it was fine but it was not. I also had a claim for my air conditioner a couple of years ago. I didn't totally agree with them on that. The company that was there said I needed to have stuff done that I didn't need to. It was the summer and I called somebody I knew and got a new unit. But overall, American Home Shield is good. For me, the warranty works because of the fact that it's just me. I don't know how to fix anything and I don't mind paying $75 to have somebody.

I waited for 36 hours and finally called my own electrician and just turned over the problem to them. When I complained to American Home Shield about this, the woman I spoke with said that it may not have been something that they covered. Tell me immediately what to do and don’t tell me someone is going to come when they never will. She then said that she will call the company for me but that took too long. It was about four days. I was concerned as this might burn up my house because of an electrical fire.

Another time, American Home Shield replaced my AC unit but I had a disaster of a time because the company they kept using was awful as they could not repair the unit even after many tries. It was winter and I was freezing and I couldn’t get anyone over because it was Christmas. I had to pack my bags and my cat and go stay with someone. Sometimes, the companies they hire are not the best that. Finally, the tech that came said that the unit needed to be replaced. I endured a lot of suffering but American Home Shield gave me a new unit. I’m one of the few people that could say I got a new AC unit.

One time my ice maker wasn’t working and AHS gave me the number of the plumbers who would come. Then I called them and we set up an appointment. The plumber that came was the owner of the company and he was very good and was able to fix the ice machine. AHS is an insurance policy and sometimes when I don’t use it I feel like I’m throwing away money. But it’s $75 when someone comes and it might be much more without AHS. AHS is about 500 dollars a year and it’s worth it if you need it.

AHS was very responsive to my initial review. The representative reviewed my case and reached out to listen to my frustrations and concerns. It does seem like AHS is genuinely concerned about the wait times for their call centers and the issues their customers experience with their dispatching system. I also believe they are actively addressing those issues.

The representative was also able to shed some light on how their service request and dispatching services work. The transparency is much appreciated because it helps explain what was happening to my service requests and why I was unable to resolve my plumbing issue for months. It doesn't answer all my questions or how I slipped through the cracks for so long, but, again, they seem to be trying to improve their services.

Most importantly, my plumbing issue was hastily resolved. Additionally, I was refunded for the service requests where I experienced so much difficulty.

I bumped my star rating from 1 to 3 given how helpful AHS was after my review. AHS still has some issues it needs to resolve. However, I do feel they are actively working to make their service better for their customers.

I live in a densely populated area (Jersey City, NJ, right across the Hudson from NYC) and they only work with one plumbing company in my zip code... The plumbing company has some of the worst reviews of all time. In order to not use that plumbing company, I need to call to create the service request. It is painful saying it, but I have spent at least 15 hours on hold. Just on hold... Every time I call, it is AT LEAST an hour wait... Additionally, in order to create the service request, I have to list 10 - 15 zip codes so the representative can look up other zip codes in their system to find other companies they work with.

I could list 10 or 15 more issues I have had but I cannot give this company any more of my time. In short, It took 3 months to fix a leak. No managers would call me back. Their system couldn't find the plumber we were already using. I even had the plumber in my driveway and they couldn't authorize it in time so he had to leave. This is the absolute worst company I have ever had to deal with. DO NOT USE THEM.

I paid for American Home Shield coverage when I purchased my home roughly six months ago. I recently had a plumber in my home for an unrelated incident when I mentioned that my hot water heater is inconsistent in providing hot water, and he pointed out that my 25 year old unit is corroded at the bottom and near failure. Rather than allow my finished basement to flood from a failed tank and cause major damage, I paid my $75 service call fee to have an AHS representative come out to assess the situation. The plumber who arrived agreed that the unit should definitely be replaced (and wrote it in his report back to the company), despite the fact that it has not completely failed. When he left he told me that AHS would make the final determination and I should expect a call within 24 hours.

After 5 days of waiting I finally called the company myself and waited an hour on hold to speak with a representative. When she finally answered and I explained that I was waiting for a callback regarding how the company planned to resolve my situation, she told me that there wasn't going to be a call because the company wouldn't be addressing it (although she agreed that the plumber had recommended replacement). That since the unit hadn't failed AHS wouldn't be doing anything about it. She went on to explain the AHS also wouldn't cover the damages when the tank does fail.

Rather shocked at her attitude I asked if it is the policy of the company to make me wait for a flood to ruin my basement and cost me thousands of dollars, after which they only plan to cover the cost of a new tank. Her answer was, "Yeah... pretty much". Since I now knew I had their most stellar customer service rep on the line, I asked if the company intends to lose each customer one at a time once they receive this treatment, to which she (intelligently) declined to answer.

I asked for a callback from her supervisor since (of course) there wasn't one working today, but I don't have high hopes. I WOULD NOT recommend American Home Shield to anyone. They will gladly take your enrollment money and $75 service call fee, but if you expect to get any customer appreciation or ACTUAL VALUE back from the company you will be highly disappointed.

I called AHS to send a contractor to come out and fix my ice maker in December. They charged me the $75 fee to the credit card over the phone. The contractor came out and fixed the ice maker. At the end of the month I got another $75 charge. I considered this a double charge since the contractor didn't come out again. I tried calling the billing section of AHS and was on hold for over 20 minutes four times until I finally got someone. I pointed out that I could see both charges on my account dashboard but they only saw one. My credit card was charged twice. AHS wanted me to send them a copy of my bill with the charges by fax. I asked if they could receive it by email since I don't have fax capability and they said no.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there were no supervisors available but I could request a callback from one. That callback never happened. I called the contractor The Appliance Store in Santa Barbara and left a message... no response. I finally called my credit card company and asked them to dispute the extra charge. There is now a charge on my account dashboard for $75. It seems ridiculous that I would have to get my credit card company involved in a payment dispute with AHS. Their chat doesn't work on their web page and the phone number leaves you on hold for a long time. AHS needs to improve its customer service in the billing area.

We purchased a 1 year agreement with AHS back in October 2018, paid in full on good faith. On 1/2/2018 we woke up to our furnace not working properly. That day was expected to be 12°. We called AHS to file claim and get furnace repaired. After waiting on hold for over an hour, we told them everything and also made them aware we have 3 small children in the home and that the temp in the home was 55°. They informed us that they will send a company of their choice out and that company would notify us within 48 hours. Company came out, told us we need a new control board and it would take a few days to get it in. So after waiting until Jan. 5, they come install new part. The technician had to call to get directions on how to install control board. I was alarmed but still patient. After about 15 minutes, tech tells me furnace is still not working so you need a full replacement.

I immediately call AHS to ask them how could they send such a shady company to my home. After waiting on hold for 76 MINUTES they tell me that they trust the company and that I will need to pay the company $2000 out of my own pocket for the full furnace replacement. At this point, I realize I'm not dealing with a company that really cares for their customers. A family of five has been without heat for over a week!

It’s now Jan. 15 (3 weeks no heat) and the shady company will not even call me back after I told them I cannot afford $2000. I have had to place numerous phone calls to AHS countless hold times without any care to human regard at all! I asked for a second opinion option that I read in my contract, which they agreed to send another contractor out. THANK GOD! They came out today Jan.17, upon inspection of control board they found it was miswired and also not plugged in all the way around!!! To say the least I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed with the company I trusted to warranty my home in case of emergency.

3 weeks without heat in the dead of winter doesn’t even qualify as an emergency to them, nothing was urgent, nothing expedited, I couldn’t even speak to a supervisor or get a direct number to call someone. I plan on filling a complain on both AHS and Stout Heating and cooling. I’m happy that we are warm now but also very scared of anything else going wrong.

I have a couple of friends who asked who I dealt with and I told them American Home Shield. I said they're efficient, as far as coming out. One of my experiences was a plumbing issue with the hot water not going to one of the showers. My representative that was on my property said their technician came out and he immediately knew what the issue was. In 30 minutes it was taken care of. Another thing, they're really good as far as putting a request online. I got a callback within the next couple of hours trying to schedule an appointment. It was good customer service. Overall, American Home Shield is a good company. I have recommended them to a few friends.

Long time customer who will be finding another home insurance provider. I travel and felt at ease should anything ever happen when I'm out of town. If there is ever an issue which there has been, my wife would call it in to be fixed. Our water heater went out so I submitted a claim through AHS. It was assigned and a person came out on Friday 1/5/18. It took over 7 business days until the tank was replaced along with an additional $425 out of pocket expense. During that time I had contacted AHS and spoke to a manager. Nice guy got what I was ticked about. Provided me a $75 credit for my service fee.

Luckily my travels were rescheduled as I was at the house when the vendor replaced the tank today 1/16/18. Being somewhat frustrated with the time it took It was done. Went to the store to come back to a garage filled with natural gas fumes. Scared the living crap out of me! I have a wife and two kids inside the house with no idea what was taking place in the garage. What the hell would have happen if I would not have been in town and caught the gas leak and turned it off. Can you imagine? Thank God he is looking over us.

For the most part, the contractors that AHS sent out to us have been good. But we don't live in a large city and a lot of times, the contractors were not easily available and we had to wait for them for several days to get here. We had to call AHS to get some of the locals and they were usually very helpful with that. But whenever we called, the wait time was 45 minutes to an hour. That's why we submit our claims on the web. But if we need to speak with them before they send out someone, we still have to call.

I had a problem with the heat and it was getting cold. For some reason, it wouldn't function sometimes. I placed a call and within a day, someone was out here. The AHS claims rep took information and then they told me that they would check someone in my area who would, in turn, call me and set up the appointment. The contractor they sent came when they said they would come. He went up to my attic and assessed the problem. He determined that my thermostats were dated, but there wasn't anything that he could address because they weren't part of the problem. I ended up getting some new thermostats which was fine. I had a good conversation with the guy and it was a good experience. Our heater was fixed and it's working great. I've been around for a while with AHS and every encounter that I've had has been a good one.

After Thanksgiving, our heater and the blower in the hot tub broke. We called American Home Shield and they sent out a contractor from Aquatech. He has been here several times and he kept on telling us that the issue is fixed but it's never right. One time, I even had to pay him an extra $150 for a button that wasn't totally covered by AHS. Then, the last two times that he'd been here, he replaced the control panel. My husband went ahead and tried to turn the unit on and it sparked. It was dangerous and it couldn't be kept like that so we talked to them. They were nice and seemed like they knew what they were doing but we're now at a point where they tell us that they don't know how to fix the issue. Also, after testing, they keep telling me they feel the pressure that they have to get 5 stars. However, we can't give them that since they haven't solved the issue in two months. It was very frustrating. They tell us that they're coming out but they never show up.

They were supposed to call AHS and AHS was supposed to call us and get somebody out who knows how to solve the issue but they haven't reached out to us yet. It's been a struggle since the weather has been freezing. Then, every single time AHS thinks it's all fixed but we tell them it's not. But AHS has a really good policy and is worth it. If you have good appliances in your home, then it's a really good service. However, I worry that they may be going to the lowball.

When the dishwasher didn't work, I submitted a claim to AHS online and their website was easy to navigate. The contractor had to come out several different times. The first time he came out, he told me it was the control panel. He ordered the control panel, put that in, and still didn't work, so he had ordered the interface. He put that in and it fixed the issue. When I spoke to their rep, she didn't know how to handle a situation as well as she should have. They kept sending me a bill for the accident. We had a claim on the garage door and I thought we would pay the $75 deductible for that, but we didn't. But they took it out on my account for the electrical which I cancelled so they owed me 75 and she didn't know how to apply it to the garage door claim. She wanted me to pay so they would reimburse me and send out a credit. But I asked her why won't she just apply it and she said she doesn't know if it can be done.

She finally got it done. She put me on hold for a while so she must have gone and talked to her supervisor and figured out how to do it and did it. Although I got another notice that my account was still $75, I haven't checked on it yet so I don't know if it was applied right. AHS needs to work on their billing and look at each account by weight. As for their contractors, their garage door guy was wonderful, but their dishwasher technician didn't seem to be the most knowledgeable. When he put the interface on, the adhesive that came on it was not really good. It bubbled up so I had to redo it down myself. He did it though and got it done. It worked but took him three business days. Other than that, we've had home warranties before and American Home Shield seems to be the best of the best home warranty companies that we've dealt with. They get stuff done and handle the problems of the majority of this house.

I've had American Home Shield for seven months now and I would definitely encourage people to consider having it particularly if they're buying a home. It gives you a peace of mind that you might not have otherwise. I submit my claims online and over the phone and there wasn't a big wait time on getting them to respond back. It wasn't immediate, but it wasn't too bad. With the most recent claim I had for the heat pump, the contractor they sent was very dedicated and professional. They arrived right on time and it was obvious that they took pride in what they did and wanted to do a good job. The guy who kept going inside and outside wore little booties so that he didn't get any dirt in the house.

I also appreciated that they tried to make sure that they understood what the problem was. They fixed the unit at first but they didn't determine why it blew up. Then, shortly after that, it blew up again. When they came back out, they were determined to figure out what happened. They then found out that a major part in the outside unit was shot. Basically, every time it came on it would blow the fuse. They told me that replacing that part was a significant part of putting another unit in and the unit was already old enough. It wasn't worth doing since everything else was having problems as well and it would cost more to fix it and try to keep it running than it was to go ahead and put a different unit in. The quality of the contractor was fabulous, and they have very nice attention to detail. I'm happy with American Home Shield.

We got to get up and flush the toilet as that’s the only way the noise would go away. The rep was very helpful and the contractor came out the very next day. We thought it was the septic tank so we did that first. The contractor was like, “I know exactly what it is”. I was like, “Oh, thank God”. He changed out some of the plumbing in it and asked us if the other toilets were doing it. He switched out the other toilets in the house as well. Everything worked fine from there on.

I’ve had AHS for quite a few years now. The monthly payment is very low compared to some of the other places that I looked at. The deductible is very reasonable and I’ve had places that they have sent out to fix stuff that didn’t do a very good job. American Home Shield sends the least experienced person out who doesn't know what they're doing. We have two-stage heaters where one heats the living areas and another heats the bedrooms, and the heater in the bedroom isn't working. The first guy that came out said that he couldn't fix it. It has something to do with the thermostat and they don't carry those kinds of thermostats. The next one thought he fixed it but he didn't so I called AHS again. The third guy that came out, he said he could fix it and he would order the control board and the two thermostats. He said that they would be bringing them back out that week. The very next morning, I got a call from REO which was contacted by AHS. They said they were coming out. I told them that I had another guy working on the issue but they said that AHS wanted them to come out.

They ordered a board and two thermostats which didn't work after the tech put it in. He came back another day and he was here four hours. And then his company called him and he said to them that it was working but not to my satisfaction. It's not to our satisfaction because it was blowing cold air in the bedrooms. I didn't know what to do. My neighbor told me to get my own person but I had to have it authorized by AHS. And doing that was like a brick wall. They would not let me speak to a supervisor. I named my neighbor as an agent and they said that if she was going to be my agent, she had to send a letter in writing. It just went on and on.

My neighbor called sales and the sales guy said that she can get authorization. A day before yesterday, we got them to say that they would give us authorization if the company that we chose, our own contractor, would call. I called the contractor and they said that it would take forever for them to get through. My neighbor finally got through today and got authorization for our own contractors to come out and do the work. The contractors said they would and when the work is done and I have my invoice, I have to mail it in and AHS would reimburse me. I will never ever recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

Once I learned I could submit claims to American Home Shield online, I was able to do that versus the telephone. The song thing on the phone is almost bordering to comedy, and then you have to talk, and if the rep doesn't quite hear you or take it for something else, it can get a little frustrating. Whereas when I'm online, I can do it exactly and I'm done. The first time I called American Home Shield was when I had an issue with the dryer. The part wasn't the right one and the dryer didn't get fixed, so the contractor had to make a second trip out. I got very nervous because I thought I was going to have to pay another $75 fee, and American Home Shield was very quick to tell me that I wouldn’t be charged again.

Recently, we had an issue with our toilet and the contractor that they sent was the same contractor that did our hot water in the shower. They were really good and we were very pleased with that. When we had the shower fixed, they had to order a part, so he ended up coming back for that. With the toilet, he was able to take care of that right away. They were in and out really quick and everything went very well. We've had a couple of call-ins as the house is over 10 years old. The original owners had the warranty and gave it to us and we've been continuing with it since. We don't really plan on changing that situation because of the heating system and the air conditioning. We're anticipating that somewhere down the road, we'll probably need some work done there. We have mentioned American Home Shield to a few people and we have dropped the name a few times. They were very efficient and professional.

My experience with American Home Shield was good but the only thing that I hate about them is the wait time on the telephone. It was never less than 30 minutes and sometimes much more. That was really the peeve because people really do not have time to sit and wait for that long just to talk to somebody to get some information. The one that was outstanding was I have a Maytag Neptune washing machine whose gasket was in need of replacement. Apparently, the model that I have has the gasket that is no longer available or at least the company was not able to find it. They offered me a replacement, but the replacement that they were offering me was not comparable to what I have. I'm being offered GE products, which aren’t local, and GE is not what I want in a washing machine. I'm being offered a specific amount of money as a replacement. Once I go and buy what it is I want, then I can ask for that amount of money that they are willing to pay.

I am a little upset about that because I expect that if I have something then you will at least make an effort to replace it with what I have. I submitted the claim a month and a half ago. It got to the point that I could not close the door. Before that, it got very difficult and I had to slam the door. The reps were wonderful and fantastic. They tried to explain to me why there was such a long wait. It was ridiculous and they should have better customer service. But as far as the people are concerned, they did an excellent job. The serviceman was also wonderful and great. I would tell my friends that there are other companies and they could do some comparison. I was disappointed about the replacement of the machine. I thought that it would be apple to apple.

I'm disappointed as well about the telephone thing and anybody that I told about it, I would warn. But as far as my experience with working with the serviceman, working with the people on the phone, them coming out when they said they would and doing what they said they would do, I'm very satisfied. I am, however, considering changing companies because I'm coming up on renewal in April. I don’t know if I'm going to renew with them or I'll go with another company. I'm looking around.

Our air conditioner wasn't working at all. I filed a claim with American Home Shield then the service person came out. I paid the $75 and they took care of part of the problem. The service person told me that the AC had several issues to it and that they could fix one of them, but it would have more problems as time went by. He really made it clear that this would not be the catch all cure and that it would just keep causing me problem after problem. I wanted a new air conditioning unit, but they said that they have to keep fixing things until there's nothing left to fix. I didn't want to do that. I wanted to have it done now, so I took care of the air conditioner myself and paid for the new one. But on what happened to me there, I was disappointed with American Home Shield.

The people that lived in our house before had American Home Shield, so I just kept it. I came home one evening and turned the heat on but what was coming out was nothing but cold air. I called AHS and it was very easy to submit a claim. It was too late for them to send anybody, so I just got in the bed and stayed warm. The next morning, the contractor came at 8 o'clock. They were very nice but all they did was switch the switch that had to be turned on. I wish I had asked my son to do it because I paid a whole lot of money for nothing. They weren't up there for two minutes. But even if I had gone up there, I wouldn't have known what switch to push. Also, I'm scared to go up there because I'm old and I don't feel very steady on those ladders that go up to the attic.

However, what confuses me is that I could pay them for years and then when I need someone to come out and help me, I have to pay almost $70 That's a little bit unfair and I feel that I'm better off to just call someone myself. It probably wouldn't cost me that much. I also had to pay for my air conditioner's Freon which was almost $200. I didn't like that at all but I can't be in Texas without any air conditioner. I thought it was all going to be included. It wasn't even written in any literature. AHS should tell people if they would need Freon, that would be a separate charge because that's a lot of money for someone on a fixed income. Other than that, I would tell friends that the servicemen AHS sent out were people-friendly. They came as early as they could and did a good work.

American Home Shield sent out Slark Plumbing to fix it. It took them three trips to get it fixed, and they broke my tile and left a big hole in my shower when they put it back in. AHS to this day, hasn’t taken care of that or made them fix it.

I had a problem with my pool filter. It's one of those on-top-the-ground pool filters and it's a big one. I called American Home Shield and their response time was pretty quick. They've always been pretty responsive to me and always treated me good. If they said the tech would come out within 24 hours, that was usually how long it took. But for the stove, I had to wait at least a month to get a replacement.

First the tech said that the issue was on the parts but in his opinion, because of the age of the stove and the parts needed, it might need a replacement. Time went by and finally, I chased him down and asked what was going on. He said it was a replacement and that he was waiting to hear from AHS. Eventually, AHS sent me a website to go to and gave me the numbers that I needed to look at. Then, I decided which replacement I wanted. If I wanted anything more than what they were offering that was supposed to be comparable to my stove, then I had to pay the difference. But in this case, I found one that compared to what I had.

After that, the people in the shipping company took about a week and a half to get the new stove down here. They were based out of Phoenix and they only deliver to Yuma once a week. So, if your order goes into them after a Tuesday, then you've got to wait till the following Tuesday. And if they mess it up, then you got to wait another Tuesday. But that had nothing to do with American Home Shield. I'd tell my friends to go for AHS. In fact, I have a nephew and I told him that he has to call those guys.

We purchased AHS in November and it took effect in December. When I purchased the warranty I had no idea they covered plumbing as well, nor did I think I'd ever had to use it. Well yesterday I thought all I had was a clogged sink so I called AHS feeling pretty happy that I had finally signed up after several years of contemplating getting them. The plumber comes out (was supposed to be here between 10 and 2 and got here at 5:30) and tells me that my issue isn't covered by the warranty and the issue will cost me $4k.

When I signed up I was amazed when I asked the lady "you mean to tell me that no matter what is wrong with plumbing you will cover it for $100.00?" She said yes, I said "what if my entire plumbing system blew up it would only cost me $100.00?" She laughed as said "yes!" I was amazed so I purchased it... I KNEW it was too good to be true. I feel lied to and now am very concerned about what we actually purchased. Needless to say a $4k plumbing issue was not something I planned on paying for this month and I'm indeed not happy about it at all. I will be looking for another company as I have already lost all confidence in the company.

I'm not sure to begin with AHS. I won't complain about the 1.5 hour wait times that I've had to wait for nearly two dozen phone calls. Instead, it might be better to explain how I was outright cheated by AHS. My gas furnace was not working. I put in a work order for which I had to repeatedly reach out to AHS to complete. Since they could not find a contractor, they made me find my own, which was fine. They came twice and completed two jobs, FOR WHICH AHS NEVER REIMBURSED ME. My furnace still wasn't working properly, and my contractor said it needed to be fully replaced. AHS required that another contractor be sent, who said it needed to be replaced. They then required a third opinion, who also said it needed to be replaced. By this time, my furnace hadn't been working properly for the months of November and December on the east coast, so you can imagine how frustrating this was.

Finally, in January they agree to replace my furnace, but they tell me I have to pay more than $1,600 for modifications! You should see the modifications on the new furnace. It's a simple replacement of a duct. When I ask how much a cashout would be so I can find my own vendor, they told me they'd give me $1,100. How does that make sense? That would not even cover the cost of the furnace without installation. To top it all off, I was charged an extra service fee charge, which AHS refuses to refund no matter how many times I call. I'm out $2,000. Find an alternate insurance company. You can't imagine the stress working with AHS has caused.

Very disappointed with AHS. I’ve used AHS for many years and have policies with them on two homes right now, but will definitely be moving to a new company. They have happily accepted my payments every month for years, but now when it is their turn to perform they have failed miserably. Recently my 5-ton furnace died and the technician AHS sent out said it had to be replaced and that AHS would cover the cost of the unit, installation, and the rebuild of the platform; however, what happened is that they ONLY want to pay $435 total, no discussion.

You can’t even buy a 5-ton unit for that, nor would that cover the cost of the install and the platform rebuild. SO out of the $2170.00 invoice they say they will cover $435.00. I’ve paid for the coverage for years, trusting that when a big repair/replace expense occurred it would be taken care of. Each time you call them to discuss, it is well over an hour time commitment with no resolve, just a promise to call you back. AHS used to be good, but now I feel I’ve been taken advantage of in the worst way. Buyer beware.

We recently bought a home and the garbage disposal was leaking. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online but the people that they sent out the first time didn’t do anything. They came out here and just looked at it. I had stoppage also and there were two plumbers that came out and they didn’t have a snake to deal with the stoppage. I’ve never in my life heard of plumbers coming out and have no snake in their truck. That’s just not normal. That’s like a carpenter not having a hammer. They said that they were going to get with American Home Shield to see if they would replace the garbage disposal, so they left without anything being accomplished. Then Christmas took place so I just gave it time. After that, I had to resubmit saying that nothing was accomplished.

The second group came and they dealt with the stoppage fine but they said that they’re going to have to submit for the garbage disposal. I told them that the first people that came out were supposed to do that. One tech said, “Well that was my boss, the owner of the company.” So, for two weeks, I was doing nothing and they hadn’t done anything on their end, so I filed a report and I told them what the deal was. Ultimately, AHS denied replacement because they said that the previous owners got a spoon caught in it and it cracked something in there. They said that it wasn’t normally used. I was aggravated with that because I didn’t do it and this is my insurance that I paid for.

I recently filed a plumbing claim and there's one that’s outstanding too. Apparently, my outstanding claim didn’t meet the needs because I expected it to bill me the service call but it didn’t. Basically, when I submitted my claim online, the system didn’t recognize my most recent claim as new. It knew that I have a plumbing outstanding, so it registered as a follow-up, not as a new one. Their plumber picked up on it and called to ask if it was a new one and I told them it was. So that was a good thing.

This is the very first time that I've done the scheduling through their website and I have found that it’s okay. However, sometimes you need to speak to a rep because you want to know a little bit more about your contract, what's covered and what isn't, but I have not been able to successfully speak to a person. The phone just rings and it picked up. Everybody’s available in 15, 20, 25 minutes, after which, I'm done. We all get paid and it's not a good use of my time. And because they were unable to give service over the phone, it pushed me on the internet whether I liked it or not.

Everything about their plumbers was delightful. They were all knowledgeable, professional and courteous. I would certainly recommend not only AHS but also this plumbing service that they used to contract. The guys that came were absolutely great. With the plumbing situation that I still have outstanding, the tech said he’d put in the report through my side, and that AHS would call me. That was the only way that I was able to speak to a rep. They feel that my contract doesn’t cover my claim so I have to go to another contractor to finish up the work before they can come out and test everything again. Overall, I'm happy with my internet experience except on the second claim, that one situation of not being able to differentiate new claim versus the follow-up.

We called American Home Shield for our garbage disposal. The rep I talked to was very cooperative and sent Bell Cow. They were an HVAC company but they also had a plumbing division. Their guys were very nice. They came out and replaced my garbage disposal, but the replacement didn't run right so I called them. The guy came right back out here, brought another brand-new unit and put it in there. I haven’t had any trouble since then.

I like the way the contractor came back. Because when you call the contractor, it takes a while before they get back, but that guy was right on time. He said that he’d be back out here the next morning with another one, and he was. It was during a holiday too. I have referred AHS a couple times now since I’ve never had any problems with them. When I call, they are always on time. They give me a contractor the day I'm on the phone and they even give me the contractor's phone number.

Then, they sent somebody out and fixed the motor within two days. The contractors sent were friendly and they got down to work, did the job and left. Now the furnace works fine.

The contractor was kind of quiet and to himself, but he did what he needed to do and left. It took him five minutes to finish the job and the quality of work was good. I had told them the little issue that I had, but other than that, everything else was taken care of and I had no problems.

My last claim with American Home Shield was for a pool leak. The company they hired came out and took a look. The guy claimed that there was a small puddle around some pool equipment and that was where the leak must have been coming from. He said that he patched it up and everything was all well. My tenant is a pool contractor and saw the guy throw water on that area. He hadn’t turned on the pool equipment in over a week because it was leaking and they didn’t want for the water to come out. Everything that the guy was in was complete fraud. And he charged American Home Shield. So we hired a different pool contractor to come out that was not associated with American Home Shield. They found a leak within a completely different area. They came in and did the patching, and everything has been fine. But because it was in the skimmer, American Home Shield said they won’t cover it. It was just a big headache.

The contractors that American Home Shield uses have routinely just been subpar. It’s an issue with considering renewing with them because all I get are crap contractors that come out to the house and don’t do a good job. Another example was I had a sewer line that was clogged that I needed a help with. So American Home Shield sent me someone who did a half-assed job and said they were all done. I told them I wanted a camera proof that it was done to make sure that the line was clear. They put the camera in there and lo and behold, it wasn’t cleared. So I had to stand there and make sure that they cleared the line and had camera proof before I signed any papers. If I didn’t do that, it would have just been another half-assed job. And the house would have been flooded with sewer. So those are the kind of people that American Home Shield sends to me.

For the most part, it’s easy to submit an issue with American Home Shield, and the companies call and schedule. It’s easy to make an appointment and the contractors come out. However, they just scam American Home Shield. They rush through their work or they just claim they found something and they pretend they found something when they clearly didn’t. If you are going to use American Home Shield, make sure that you watch over the contractors' shoulders with every move. Because if you don’t, then you can’t rely on their work.

When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield to have my heater fixed, it was through their online form which was intuitive, functional and quick. Though the online experience is fine, the phone service is abysmal. Every single time I called American Home Shield, it’s taking over an hour just to have somebody answer my call. But the technicians who came have been very good. They gave an alert on my phone that tells me that they’re coming and then they usually call ahead of time and then show up at the time that they’re expected to. They also informed me about what they’re doing or any additional variables they may have found. They had one follow up appointment because my heater was extremely broken. There was an additional thing that wasn’t causing it to work. So they fixed just one part of it but then it wasn’t connected so they connected it. Overall, the service offered by American Home Shield is worth the effort, just don’t give them a call.

I’ve had two claims with American Home Shield. One was when I had a refrigerator problem with the ice coming out of the icemaker and I had a claim on the water heater. I called them in, and the refrigerator claim was very smooth. As soon as I filed the claim, the company that they sent to do the work called me within a few hours and had an appointment quickly. But the water heater claim has been different. It took three business days, five days with the weekend, to get the plumber out. And then it has taken another eight days before the plumber is actually putting in the water heater so I’ll be without a water heater for two weeks. He came out last Tuesday to look at the water heater to decide if he could fix it or if it needs to be replaced.

And then on Thursday, I called the plumbing company to see if they had heard back from American Home Shield about covering the water heater, and they haven’t called it in yet because the rep’s comment was that the hold time there is ridiculous and it takes a long time sometimes for the technicians to call the claim in. And one time that I called American Home Shield, I was on hold for an hour before I could talk to somebody. When I called the plumbing company on a Thursday morning, she said they’ll call me back but come two o’clock in the afternoon, I didn't hear from anybody so I called them back again. Then I called American Home Shield and asked if they heard from the plumbing company and the rep said no. So, while I had American Home Shield on the phone, she called the plumbing company who then bridged in the plumber to get the information.

It has been almost two and a half days since the guy had been out there and they had not even gotten through to American Home Shield yet, which is very disappointing. They have an appointment set in two days to finally come and replace the water heater. The hold time is too long when you’re trying to talk to a representative at American Home Shield. That’s not appropriate. You shouldn’t have to be on hold for an hour to talk to a live body.

And in trying to fix that, it resulted in days of waiting to get back and also days of being on hold forever trying talk to somebody. We have two family businesses and I don’t treat my customers that long. And we considered twice this last time about canceling the policy with them.

I have been with American Home Shield for close to 30 years already. Normally, I call in and they come out and I pay the service person. But now I have to pay before they come and I don't like that. The last time I called, my washing machine drain wouldn't go through so I needed a plumber. However, the representative I spoke with said that I am delinquent. I don't want that because I'm not delinquent -- I have A1 credit. And American Home Shield kept sending bills and then I got a bill for my service after we paid and I still got a bill saying I owe them money.

I kept getting these letters since last August, and what happened was that my credit card was stolen and then I got a replacement, but someone went into my account. So, I don't use my credit card online to pay AHS anymore. I send postal checks instead. The lady on the phone said she would take care of it and she did. Another thing, when I called, they gave me certain time. And I threatened to leave so they take care of me, but I don't like the way they do it now. If you have to call for a serviceman you have to prior to and they may fix it for two weeks. Overall, while the people who came out to my home were nice and they knew their stuff, American Home Shield should take better care of their old-time customers because sometimes I do not think they care.

I bought my first house in 1983 and had AHS at that time. Many years later, they're still in business and doing the same thing, so they're doing something right. Whenever I go into a closing on a house, it's AHS that's offered to me. They probably get 10,000 claims a day, so it’s hard for them to do a follow-up. We had a plumbing issue recently and so far, it has been good. I submitted the claim with AHS once by phone and once online. Both of them worked out fine and had a good follow-up. Their customer service was good. However, it took them a while to answer the phone when I called and was on hold for 15 minutes. It was a little longer than I expected.

I had a problem with my washer dryer and the contractor said that AHS was responsible for 1300 of their calls annually, so it’s a nice contractor people are going to get, but they have to meet the contract. AHS was responsive and got a hold of me on time. I expected a 24-hour window once I report a claim. Then AHS contacts the vendor by the computer, and the vendor will get back to them or will get to the me a bit quicker. The washer dryer was not a big deal so I could afford to wait. In retrospect, one of the contractors never contacted me. I tried to call AHS back to report it but I was on hold forever. When I finally got through, the girl was not helpful in terms of resolving that specific issue. She could have been a little more attentive to the matter, but she wasn’t. So I gave up on it and the problem resolved itself. Other than that, everything has been fine.

Our chandelier wasn't working and some lights in our laundry room were shorted out. When I submitted the claim to AHS, the experience was awful and I stayed on hold for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, I gave up, called back, and did the claim online. But I'm not a big fan of that 'cause I can't talk to anybody when I want to explain the problem and even the choices they gave weren't close to what I needed. It was faster and they got me to the right people but I would much rather talk to them. Not be able to talk to somebody is aggravating and I should be able to talk to them within five minutes for paying $80 a month for 14 years. I don't know if there are not enough operators or this is the way to force people to use the internet to log in the issue. I also had an experience with them where I've been on hold for over an hour and 20 minutes. But when I started with them 14 years ago, it was a five-minute wait time to talk to somebody.

But whenever I get a rep on the line, they're cordial. The last one was very quick, and they were on and off the phone. They didn't really give up to me to talk or go through some stuff. In terms of the contractors that they sent out, all of them were handy and good. But I had an issue with one of them years ago and then the next time I called a couple of months later, I had the same issue with the air conditioner and AHS still wanted to send the same company back. But I told them that I want somebody else because of the issue we had where they tried to upsell me which I didn't need to do.

A contractor tried to upsell me five years ago when one of my water heaters went out. The company came in, they took it out, replaced it, and I was good to go. Then three months later, they sent another plumber to my house and he said because of the code changes, I had to pay out of pocket $600 for him to install the water heater. I don't know if he was full of crap or the other guy missed it. I can't blame a company for trying to upsell. That's what they do and how they make their money. But if it's bad, I'll call and complain. If the issue wasn't resolved or fixed properly, AHS sent another contractor out after I complained a couple of times. But for the most part, I'm pleased with the contractors that AHS send out.

The AHS website is user-friendly. They have different things and different categories and I just have to pick the category. The only thing is sometimes, you have different problems in different categories but you can only submit all the problems in one category. They can perhaps improve that so that you can select all your problems and they categorize it for you so they can send it to a different company. Otherwise, I would just choose one problem or two problems in the same category. And if I need another service, I have to choose a different category.

My dishwasher works fine but I got a new disposal. I needed to open the cap for the drainage for the dishwasher and there was a problem with the drainage in the disposal. I thought it was the dishwasher and AHS had the dishwasher in appliance. I chose the appliance but when the technician came in, he said that it wasn't his issue and that it was a plumbing issue. I had to pay $75 for nothing.

I had to go back online and choose plumbing again and pay another $75. But this could have been very easy to fix and I could not have had to pay for the second one. I hope that AHS has phone consultations, a person that I can talk to. I thought that it was a dishwasher problem but if I talked to someone, I could have been told that it was a plumbing issue. And then I’d know to choose a different category. They could have suggested which companies I should have talked to.

AHS is doing great though. I required service from them and it was very prompt. They usually respond within 24 hours. When I submitted a claim for my dishwasher, the company AHS assigned me contacted me within one day to schedule an appointment and the technician appeared on time. The contractor was very professional and really quick to fix my problem. Usually, it’s the contractor who contacts me. But I hope that there is a customer service from American Home Shield and they can call me back to confirm my problem. They'd also know it’s the right contractor I’m directing my inquiries to. I hope there is also an email loop and there’s a link in the loop so I'd know that I’m submitting the right request. People should get AHS if they want to be trouble-free, it’s really frustrating to get a contractor by themselves. And the connection of AHS is just really good and they send better professional contractors to fix problems. I would recommend my friends to use this service.

The heating units for both of my furnaces would ignite, shut off and then ignite again. In between that time where the fire would go on and turn off, there would be this burst of gas that you could smell in the house. I went online and submitted a claim, then American Home Shield scheduled the appointment online. The process was painless and easy. However, the original guy who came out didn’t do anything. He came back later that day, but still didn’t solve the problem. Two days after he left, the issue was back. We scheduled another guy to come out and he did better. He told me what the problem was but said it was a maintenance issue and not a mechanical problem, and he was not going to do anything. That was disappointing and I'm not real happy about it.

But what really upset me was that he said I needed to replace, at a minimum, both the evaporator coils. I asked him if we could clean them, but he said no. If it was a problem to the point where it needed to be replaced, how was that a maintenance issue? When I decided I wasn’t going to buy immediately, the report went back to American Home Shield. Apparently, what the contractor was saying as a maintenance issue was that the previous owners neglected to change out their filters over time which caused all sorts of debris and whatnot to get stuck into the evaporator coils. This caused issues with airflow through the evaporator coils, eventually causing the flame to come out. American Home Shield should do a little more research on the companies they choose to work on their warranty claims.

I submitted that claim online and while I did it easily, the website is like, “Here are your options.” Unlike when talking to someone where I can say what I think the issue is. So, on the plumbing claim, I had to check a few things just to cover the basis of what the problem could be since it wasn’t speaking to someone verbally. Not knowing what the problem was and why the water was leaking, I was like is it because the garbage disposal is broken and it’s causing a leak or is there a leak and has nothing to do with it? So, I clicked off both things because I wasn’t sure, versus if I was talking to a rep, I could tell the rep what the problem is and they can differentiate on their own.

The contractor who came then found the things and checked everything else. He didn’t find any problem. But he was very thorough at checking every detail to make sure that I wasn’t going to have to call back and tell them there actually is a problem. He was very prompt, professional and courteous. He seemed like a nice guy. I would highly recommend that contractor. I was pleasantly surprised and happy about it. This experience is very good and everything went very smooth.

I was going to have the other person do it but they said that they needed to check with American Home Shield.

Then AHS contacted me and said that the cash out option was $480 in one case and $500 in the other case. That's what they valued the furnace and the labor to put it in which is absolutely absurd. I went ahead and had them do it because my option was cash of about $400. The people that did the installations were professional and they did really well, but I feel like I got taken advantage of in both cases. Otherwise, the technicians let me know exactly what was going on, when they were going to be back out, and when they were going to have the stuff. I would recommend American Home Shield highly to anyone.

AHS is pretty much the only name or is the most well-known name for home warranties. We got a home warranty with our house when we bought it and we have them for about 15 years now. It's a good investment. I submit claims online because the hold time takes 20 or 30 minutes, but my wife calls them in. Just like with any insurance policy, sometimes you win with American Home Shield and sometimes you lose. I pay $75 for every service call, but some of the stuff would have been cheaper if I went outside of AHS. Then, we filed four tickets on the washer and it has never been resolved. They kept sending out the same people, which I think are the only ones on their list. So we're also not thrilled with one of the contractors that AHS sent out, but most of them have been pretty good.

I've had three experiences with American Home Shield in the last year and a half. The last one, I thought I had a gas leak in a pipe in the house. Their guy came out and he was good. It turned out it was not a gas leak. The time after that was for pool work and I got into a disagreement with Knock Out Pools' telephone person who thought I worked for her in an attitude and we never finished that particular deal. The guy that was supposed to come out called me and claimed that my speaking to him was yelling at him, which was inaccurate. I did that to his scheduler.

Before those two, I had a heating air-conditioning problem. My pan was leaking in one of my air-condition units in the house. I got water spots on my ceiling in my laundry room. I had to specially treat it and paint it because the contractor broke the discharge pipe that goes from the pan out to the outside of the house. The contractor informed AHS of the claim. I did a cash out on that and it went with my own contractors that did the work correctly.

I felt that AHS uses substandard contractors. It's funny when contractors come in and say, “We can't do that". But, the time before they said they can do that. They don't necessarily know exactly what they're doing. They'll come out, break something, won't put it back together right and just patch it. And they're not responsive. I'm very dissatisfied and would never recommend AHS.

I'm a real estate agent and I buy home warranties for my clients. So, I've tried a lot of other home warranty companies, and American Home Shield has been the best. However, when my air conditioner goes out, they will say that they'll replace it but they will only put a band-aid on it until it literally conks out completely and then they'll have an excuse not to replace it.

I called American Home Shield for my refrigerator and the rep said that Sears would be out, but they couldn't be out for two weeks. I told the rep that that was unacceptable so, they told me that they had another vendor in my area, and I told them that I wanted him here. The technician came out the same day and he was good. However, it was something that happened where I triggered something and luckily, it fixed itself. AHS also sends out horrible vendors that don't know what they're doing. They won't do anything, will keep mending the problem and not make a replacement. AHS should send better vendors. Other than that, I like my AC people and I highly recommend AHS. I also had a plumbing issue and the technician that fixed it was fabulous.

American Home Shield sent me a someone from Jasper Mechanical over for a heater issue I had. He was on top of things and knew what he was doing. He went up the attic, checked that out and he told me what was wrong up there. He put a new compressor in and the heater is working fine. He has to come back a second time though to check out why my heater is making a loud and annoying humming noise. It’s a constant high tone noise coming from the vent. When the mechanic left, he told me he would call me back the next day but I never heard from him. I haven’t tried to call back though because I was told that maybe he would remember that he was supposed to call me that same date at 8:00 o’ clock. Also, I didn’t know they were going to charge me again.

I work with this other guy who is into air conditioning and I asked him about the noise. He said that I’m supposed to hear something. But I don’t think it’s supposed to be as loud as mine because I didn’t hear any of that before the new compressor was put in. I can’t blame the person that put the part in for the noise as he didn’t make that compressor but I’m hoping that they could find out why it’s so noisy. Other than that, I would still recommend this company to somebody else.

I wanted to talk to a real person and that could be really difficult at American Home Shield. I was on hold for over 30 minutes to get through and that’s really frustrating. I wanted to confirm that what I needed to have done was covered under my plan and ask a couple of more qualifying questions, but I couldn’t get a hold of a real person. So I ended up paying in a separate incident the $75 fee only to find out that the company could do it but American Home Shield didn’t cover the work I wanted to be done. I had to go get a refund for the service fee and again, I had to be on hold for a very long time. It was very frustrating and there's no link on the website to send an email or contact them in another way other than the telephone number.

When I got a hold of someone, the interaction went fine. I tried not to take out my frustration on that rep, but it was hard. My time is important just like everybody else’s and on hold forever is not cool. Even so, the contractor did a great job. He told me what the issue was, what I needed to not worry about and what I needed to do. He was in and out in a short period of time so it was a very pleasant experience.

After the repair, the furnace has been performing fine. The water line kept getting clogged up with sediment and it's dripping into the drain pan underneath it and rusting it. He told me that it was just surface rust and not to worry about it and that was really what I wanted to hear. So it was perfect. Also, I like that I can schedule services and pay everything online. That is pretty convenient. If you know exactly what is covered and you don’t have any questions, then you're good. But I would not recommend them if you do not know exactly what is covered. The contract is online but if you have more in-depth questions, there's no way to ask and that’s pretty poor communications.

It took about almost eight hours. I got to replace the furnace and the mount wall. It’s got the cold for the air conditioning and I got to take it out and get a gas while I had to take the part. It was a little complex but it got done. AHS just gave an allowance of $580 that barely covers the furnace and I haven’t seen the money yet but they said it’s on the way.

I’ve only called American Home Shield three times. I filed a claim online the first time but it took a longer time for the contractor to come out. And it was quicker for me to call. When I filed my first claim, the contractors came and replaced a fuse. They were quick and efficient. And the second time was when my air went out and they came in and rewired the entire system because a lot of the wires have been crossed. But that was when the issue started. They did not reattach my heat pump, so when the weather changed from hot to cold, I had no heat when I turned it on.

I filed another claim and I had to pay another fee for American Home Shield so that I could get that problem rectified. American Home Shield said it was a different issue. So the company came back and fixed the heat. And so far, that had been the only bad experience I’ve had with American Home Shield. I spoke to a couple of ladies when I was having the air and heat issues and they were so polite and wonderful.

I got a text and an email confirming that I've submitted and then the plumber called me and confirmed the schedule. But there was a little confusion. The time frame that AHS told me was slightly different from what the plumber was going to come out and do. Maybe there was a miscommunication between AHS and the plumber. Last year, we had the issue on the air conditioner which was something minor. Then we had a heater issue with the blower which was also minor. Our big issue was with the water heater in the house. The first plumber AHS sent out spent several hours but couldn't solve the problem. He was also trying to sell me a bladder for $600 but I knew the bladder wasn't wrong because I did all the testing myself. I didn't want him back in my house because he was here twice and I still had no water for a week. But the last plumber who was sent out was very adept and he fixed the problem so I'm happy with that. He was a young guy who was very intelligent at what he does and he fixed the problem in 30 minutes. The problem boiled down to the filter. The other guy changed the filter but he put the filter in wrong which disallowed water to come through. It's been perfect since the young plumber left though.

In my recent claim, AHS had a guy out to try to fix my Sharp Insight which is a very nice drawer microwave that pulls out. He changed some things in it but it still didn't work. He had to order some more parts and I’m waiting on that. American Home Shield stands by what they do and I’m happy with them. They're great and I wouldn't know what to do without what they had done. You just don't know on your own. I tried to fix everything and to do something even without calling AHS but having no water was the worst.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a plumbing issue in which the cartridge in the shower valve needed to be changed. The first technician actually broke a few things and he reported back to American Home Shield that the problem was unfixable without substantial work. I had to go through the process of getting a second opinion through AHS. That call was slightly adversarial in the sense that they were very defensive of the contractor but I had to insist and they didn’t push that hard. That second opinion told me that the first technician did a pretty poor job. The second tech was very open with me and he explained to me what he thought had happened. He walked me through everything that he was seeing where we determined that the first contractor had actually broken something and it made the situation worse rather than fixing it. He went the extra mile. Since then, the shower worked fine.

I've had some very good experiences and I've had some experiences that did not meet my expectations. I had one issue where I believe I had something that should have been covered and it wasn’t. Unfortunately, it was in a position where the issue went to mean not having water in my house so I was not in a position to deal with it. I had to have it fixed. I had a pipe leak in one of my walls and I had to shut off the water and the technician officially diagnosed it as a crack in the spigot from a freeze we had had not long before that. After looking, the frozen spigot is now officially outside of the home and was not covered by American Home Shield. However, looking at the repair work when it was finally done, it became pretty apparent that what ended up being repaired wasn’t the spigot. It was the pipe behind the spigot.

When our heater was not working, I filed a claim to AHS over the phone and there was a very, very long wait time. They sent a technician out but it took five days without heat before somebody came out. He found the problem and fixed it. But prior to this one, I had a light that went out in front of the house, and it was attached to the house. I called them and I was on hold for about two hours before somebody picked up. They said it was covered and they sent out one company. As far as actual technicians that they sent to our home, Ideal Electric was terrible and I heard that they still send them out. The technician never took the light off to look at it. Then they sent another company out and they said, "All you need to do is call them and I'll come back today". And to date, I ended up having to fix the light myself.

I was on hold with them for roughly 15 hours over the course of the week. I asked them for a refund because I was told it was covered. They said they record their calls and now they are telling me it is not covered. I spoke to them on Friday and she said she would call me back in a half hour, and I still have not heard back. I am in the process of trying to cancel my warranty with them. They offered me a $75 service call and a free month if I did not cancel but it is not worth it. I call them and I am on hold for over an hour, and then a supervisor gave me her direct line and it was still on hold. I would not recommend them.

But then, when we submitted a claim for our hot water tank, the second lady I spoke with on the phone was very rude based from the tone of her voice. We have three children so it's hard to be without hot water in December. I had called AHS back to see if they had somebody else that could come sooner and this lady said they couldn't do more for us.

The contractor they sent was nice. He came out and checked the water heater. He told us what was wrong with it, and he said we would need a new one. He went out to his vehicle to call his company and by the time he came back, they wanted us to pay $75 plus another 800 dollars. It was for the change in city and code and all that. So I told him that we couldn't do that. So far, I've been trying to get in touch to tell them that I wanted to cancel my contract. But I haven't had any luck. Overall, they should be more consumer friendly and they should stand up for what they say on their TV commercials about the repairs and all.

I’ve had some negative experiences with American Home Shield in the past, specifically relative to the furnace. I’ve had issues with them prior to that too. My sense is that they don’t really like to take responsibility to repair much of anything unless you’re lucky. And there are things that they're not responsible for. There was product failure over time in my house and AHS refused to repair them so I’m not pleased. The technicians came and looked at something that should be covered, but they didn't know what the insurance company was going to do. Then I'd hear from the insurance company that they were not going to cover it.

It’s minimalistic coverage and rarely they do repair things. We have the premium plans but I figured they were probably better than the other ones. But when the oven door hinge was broken, they repaired it and I'm appreciative of that. I would tell my friends to look around at other companies though. Unfortunately, when looking for homeowners’ insurance, it’s a relatively captive audience and there are not that many companies that do this kind of service.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I either go online which is fine or I try to call them especially if it’s requiring some information about how to do so. However, it takes them forever to get on the phone. I spend an hour and a half on hold waiting for someone to pick up the phone every time I call. But once I get in, their customer service has been fine in terms of how we were treated. On the other hand, their contractors have been good but we had one that we didn’t care for and we spoke to AHS about that and they authorized us to have our own vendor come out and do the replacements. Also, they weren't able to get us a contractor a few times which was a problem but they allowed us to hire our own contractor and submit a claim separately, and I appreciated them for that.

But the biggest issue was having to call them to get authorization for the contractor to fix what the problem was while he was here, which required us to wait for 25 minutes on the phone. Another frustrating thing that happened was when we paid a vendor directly and AHS kept sending me notices that I owed them money for a call out fee. I called them, waited on hold for an hour and they realized that it was a mistake supposedly rectified in their system. I had to call back a second time, wait for an hour and I was told that the first person who told me that they had done it right hadn’t done it, and I had to go through the process all over again. My online account still shows that I owe money when I don’t but I’m ignoring it for now mainly because I can’t throw the idea of calling them again. Other than that, AHS is very good in terms of getting people out and fixing things. It’s been really helpful, and they’re not giving me a hard time about getting the coverage.

American Home Shield has been awesome and we’re so pleased that we signed up for our home in Texas. My most recent claim was having the dryer fixed and also had an issue with the garbage disposal several months ago. Submitting a claim online was simple and easy. We have coverage on our home in Nevada wherein we had an issue last year. We had paid the vendor and, for whatever reason, they didn’t communicate that to American Home Shield and so, we received a bill. I talked to somebody to present the invoice and copy of my bank statement as proof that it has been paid. It still had not been cleared up until a month later when we called. One gal said that we’d better call the vendor. But I said that wouldn’t do you any because they were the ones that didn’t confirm that I've paid.

The issue with the dryer was disappointing. Our dryer had been on their list since the week of Christmas. The contractor came out on the 29th. We got a little reminder via text that he would be here in 15 minutes. But it has been an hour and he hasn’t come yet so I called and left them a message. Then later, I finally got a hold of him and realized, when I took the trash out, that he had left his car down some porch. I found out our doorbell wasn’t working to where I could hear it very well downstairs, so that was the issue. I called them back and asked if they could come back. They said that the contractor was out of the service area already and that they would have to come again.

So he came again a week later. This time, I was like looking off out the front door. I didn’t want to miss the guy again because it has been a couple of weeks that we haven't had a dryer and couldn’t do our laundry. He was nice and said that the timer went out which caused the heating element to go out. He had to see if they have the part which could take a week or less. So I called and the girl said that they have the part, but they were booked up. The next time that they could schedule us was this week Monday. So he came and fixed it but I was disappointed at the fact that they knew that we were out of a dryer but they weren't more proactive about saying, “Hey, these folks have been out of the dryer for a while, let's squeeze them in as soon as the parts are in and take care of them.” They had too many other appointments. So we had to go yet another weekend without being able to do laundry.

Because of the wait, I was so close to calling somebody else and having to pay the full price to get the dryer fixed. But other than that, they were quick to do the work. The dryer’s running fine now and haven't had any issues since. American Home Shield has always been great and very prompt in getting a hold of the vendor to come out. And I like the way that they have it set up now to put in my card information so that it would automatically pay once the vendor gets here to take care of stuff. It makes things easier.

When the motor of the garage door opener didn't work, I put in a claim through the internet. American Home Shield called and sent me the email that someone would be calling me, and somebody did within 24 hours. Another time, an electrician came out to put in a fan for the rental property across the street and he was horrible. He said he was a psychic and he kept asking about our dreams. He said it was his father’s company then it was his. Then he kept calling and asking if we had any more work. He said we didn’t have to go through American Home Shield. I told him he was scary and that I didn’t want him back. But everything has been fine after the repairs.

The warranty works. I pay the monthly fee and the $75 service charge. Sometimes, like with the washer and dryers, AHS would really try to stretch it out or try to find the part that’s no longer available. But it might just be the Samsung products that they have trouble with. If you have American Home Shield or any other home warranty things, and something goes wrong with the air conditioning, at least you know part of it is covered. So there’s peace of mind. Then if something goes wrong within the month of the service, it’s still covered and there won't be another service fee. With a regular contractor, that would be another fee. The warranty is not just for new properties or when you buy a home. Most people think that’s what home warranty is.

The only problem I’ve had with American Home Shield within the last six months was when they were saying they never got my payment. That has happened three times in a row even though they have my billing information. But most of the time, their customer service reps are nice and accommodating. I don’t get too much feedback though. Every once in a while, they would send a postcard but they never actually call. Other than that, we’re happy with American Home Shield.

We had water in the kitchen floor and the carpet was wet over on the other side of the wall. It appeared that the water was coming out from under the island area. If you step on the tile it comes up to the grout. We thought it was a slab leak so we turned it in to American Home Shield and they sent out the leak detector guy. He looked but he didn’t find the leak so we decided it must be the dishwasher. American Home Shield sent out the dishwasher man who also looked but didn’t find a leak. He told us that they would probably want a second opinion so they sent another dishwasher repairman and it leaked this time. There was a valve that turned the water on and off into the dishwasher that stuck and the water would just overflow. Luckily it turned off and it all worked out. He fixed it and everything was good.

However there was a bit of confusion in the billing because we had three different people out. I paid my $75 when I initially made the call and then they sent some bills out a couple of different times on another $75 and emails sent out on another $75. It took a bit to get that cleared up but it did and I only paid the one $75. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

I had a dishwasher repair order with American Home Shield a few months ago. The first person's name was Vladimir and Victor was the second person. It was a re-fix. Victor did an amazing job and noticed some things that hadn't been noticed before. He gave me some tips on how to keep it clean and running well and was able to quickly resolve the problem. I didn't feel that way about the first person. The first person did a nice job but he just did that one thing, whereas the most recent visit, he looked over and saw. He was proactive and was like, "Is there anything else?"

The contractors were good and have exceeded my expectations. I usually call American Home Shield when submitting a claim and my interactions with their reps have been a little on the more pleasant side. However, we have some difficulties with our heater and it is not working very well. It is older and we didn't know if they would replace it if there is a serious issue or not. But they go, "No, we won't help with that", so it is not doing what it should do.

We've been customers of American Home Shield from 1999 to 2006 and we had a good experience with them. When we bought a brand new home and moved to Texas, we cancelled the contract since we didn't feel the necessity to have it. Then, after our house turned 10, we decided to once again get AHS. We got our money's worth out of our contract since we opened up this new process with AHS and it worked out well. We've also recommended AHS to people and we have friends who purchased an AHS warranty after we told them about our experience.

We filed a claim with them when our furnace wouldn't shut off. A sensor within it went out and the blower part of the AC burned it. We did it online and their site was excellent. Their contractor called on a Thursday, which was my wife's day off, and asked if they could come the next day. We told them that my wife would not be home the next day since she had work and they told us that they would come out that day before noon. We had a really good interaction and their service was fast. They got the job done and since then, we haven't had a problem with the furnace staying on.

Then, a few months ago, our frontloading washer was leaking. It has a rubber boot around the door since it's a high-capacity washer and the contractor who came out saw the water on this boot. He told us that the boot was bad and that he'd be replacing it. When he did that, the fixture above the boot leaked. I ended up having to call AHS since it's their protocol for getting the same service tech back to our house, and the wait time was an hour and fifteen minutes. When I was able to talk to a person, I asked him if I could instead do the process online but he told me that I couldn't and that I had to call in to have a retake. So I would suggest for AHS to lose the call-in procedure at times when a customer needs the contractor to come back out. Other than that, once they contacted the tech, he called me up the next morning and he was there that afternoon.
