American Home Shield is a great company that provides proficient service. I called them recently for an AC repair and they handled it promptly. They were able to get a tech here the next business day. Moreover, the AC has been working as expected since the repair.

The sub-contractors AHS hires to make repairs are terrible and impossible to get in contact with. After constantly getting the run-around, I've had enough! Sent a certified letter of cancellation to all four addresses listed on their website. Also called AHS and after an hour finally got to talk to a representative who said my account was canceled. A week later, I received two charges on my credit card (one for the monthly fee and another $100 service fee for God knows what). Do NOT get a contract with this terrible company!

My AC wasn't working and it kept aggravating everybody because it's hot at night. We called American Home Shield and they sent someone out right away. The tech guy came and worked on it, and it worked for awhile. Then it got too cold and it froze up and stopped the other night. He came in yesterday and said something about the unit was no good. He talked to me and explained things to me and my daughter. He did very well, and they're usually right on time. The AHS reps were very nice and I've recommended them to several people.

My furnace went out, so I was cold taking a shower in the morning. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, and they’re always nice. They got somebody out early the next day. He came out quickly, and got it done quickly. Now, I’m nice and warm. I’ve had American Home Shield for 17 years, and I’m satisfied with them.

AHS has gone well with claims I filed. The air conditioning stopped working and the AC people came out and diagnosed it. Then they put in what's needed to be done with American Home Shield. American Home Shield processed it. And the company ordered the part, and then, they came and replaced the compressor. I believe I filed the claim online and it was easy. But I've done before over the phone filing. It's confusing though to try and get a person over the phone. It takes a while to get through and I go through a bunch of different menus. None of them get to a person for a while, and then, when I finally get a person, they're very helpful.

The technicians have all been very professional too. We've been satisfied. They know what they're doing more than we do. We've been pleasantly surprised at how fast they can get the work done. We've had our garbage disposal replaced and then, we also had a leak in our hot water unit that somehow stopped before the technician got there. But they've all been very quick to come. And they've had the part in their vehicles right then and there. So, not too often do they have to pause and order parts. If one is considering renting out their home, it is worth it to have American Home Shield as their home warranty.

Our refrigerator just stopped working, it burned and I don't know how that happened. We made a phone call to American Home Shield and the contractors who came to check it were fine. They told us it needed to be replaced. My husband dealt with everything with the guy that came to the house and everything was fine with the claim. However, when we reported our dryer being messed up before, the contractor who came said that there was a clog and that it needed to be cleaned, but they couldn't do that for us. We needed to get somebody else. And when we actually moved the dryer, the hose was bent. So, I don't know why they didn't do anything. Also, we called to have some service done on the appliances and it took forever. One time, I was on the phone for almost an hour until I finally got somebody. Those were my disappointments so far. Otherwise, they've been very reliable.

One of the coils of my electric stove went out so I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and it was fairly easy. From when I filed the claim to when the contractor came out was around a week and a half. The contractor was very polite and very nice and he knew what he was talking about. But I had to reschedule the installment of the piece. He told me that he would have to send the claim to American Home Shield and they would have to order it.

And then they were saying that they received the part from American Home Shield already and that it would be replaced. Everything with American Home Shield has been good. When my stove about two years ago they gave me a list of different kinds of stoves that I could get from them because they had to replace the whole stove. And we ended up getting a GE appliance.

With the blue stove they were able to order the part but the technician was just telling me that it keeps happening. It's costing them more money to repair the stove than it is to actually just replace it. But until then I guess I have to wait until it keeps breaking. But I recommended AHS to a couple of people. When you're a home owner you don't intend for appliances to break. But one thing I've learned is when one thing goes wrong 500 other things go wrong so it's always something good to have.

The emergency electric supplement didn’t kick on about a month ago. I submitted the claim to AHS online and I got a response within 12 hours. Then, the technician showed up the next day. The contractor was in the area and he made an effort to change his schedule and come to our place. He fixed it and the repair went better than expected. Also, I had another claim about six months ago and the same thing happened. They were very responsive, the same technician showed up and fixed it right away. It has been excellent so far and AHS has done a fine job for me.

I needed AHS to put a new blower for my furnace. I filed a claim over the phone and I was on hold for almost two hours. Normally I don't wait that long but that was the time when it was so cold all over the world so they were probably getting a lot of calls so I understood that. Once I got through to someone, it was good. The contractors they sent were professionals. They were also good since they had come out for the second time since I didn't have a hole and I had to have someone else do it. The issue has now been taken care of and the unit is working well. I'm satisfied with my AHS experience. I would recommend them, and have done so to a few people. The payment is decent and the service is quick.

We've had American Home Shield a very long time and we've usually had some very good experiences. But this last experience with the cold weather was probably one of the worst experiences that we had with them. I was on the phone waiting for almost two hours for someone to call me back and I did that three times. I asked the lady I talked to to call me back because it takes me forever to get through, and she said it was not a problem. I told the last one I talked to that I wanted to talk to their supervisor because I wasn’t happy. And she said, “I'm going to put it in right now in the system telling the first available supervisor to call you.” They have not called me as of yet and this has been quite a long time now.

We realized, of course, that the weather was going to have a big play in this and I understand that, but if someone said they were going to call you back and they didn’t, and then you had to get back on the phone and ask for another hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes, it's very unprofessional. Finally, since I got an authorization for a person that’s not into American Home Shield's system to work on my problem, I got the service that day and the techs fixed my problem. That’s what I was hoping American Home Shield would do, but it was terrible and I was completely disappointed. We had to pay for the whole system which was $488. Then once it was done, the contractor company gave me receipts, I emailed them to American Home Shield and a couple of weeks later, we got a check. American Home Shield was good in the past, but they’ve shown their true colors in a time of real need. I wouldn’t recommend them.

I filed a claim for my heating system with AHS. I called and gave them my information. I called the company that they referred me on a Saturday but I never got a callback and so I had to follow up with that company who AHS contracted with. I left a message and still, no one ever called me. So, I called again and it so happened that one of their techs picked up the phone. He indicated that he could come out around 10:00 or 11:00 but it was not good for me since I go to work at 6:00 in the morning. I had to leave work which was an hour away from home so that he can fix my unit. He waited for me and that was good but as far as the company itself calling me, I never heard from them. He said that their service, as far as the phone, is not good. So he personally told me to reach out to him as he had a number that called me. I finally got my unit fixed and it was one of those times when it was freezing cold. It was on a Monday around noon.

I have referred four neighbors to AHS and out of four, at least two have complained possibly. One said that she called in regards to a dryer that she just recently purchased. It was a new dryer and it went back and forth for a month. She tried to tell AHS that she felt the tech was taking their money and that that should not have been a big issue but AHS did not listen to her. They went with the tech. It was crazy because she was the one who is paying the warranty bill. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with AHS since the company that they referred me to was very efficient, however, the company that they referred me to repair my heater situation was closed on a weekend when it was freezing. It wasn't the contractor's fault, it was AHS's.

I go to AHS's website to submit claims and then because I know who the vendors are, I call them. But AHS usually gets back to me within the same day if I make a request and their reps have been great and very helpful. Also, I manage a lot of property so typically, it's rental and I just give the contractors access to take care of their business. But I have interacted with them before and they're great. All my plumbing claims are always great and Dean's Plumbing takes care of business.

The only problem is there are minimal vendors available that do the work in our area. Some of them are great and some of them, not so great. So, it depends who the vendor is. Sometimes, you don’t have an option and there's a couple of vendors that don’t return phone calls and that are not very good at all. If I get those ones that are supposed to do the work for me, I just call American Home Shield and tell them I don’t want that person, like with their electricians. If it's an electrical issue, it tends to be an issue. But everyone does the best they can. All in all, it's a good experience. And I think it's a great investment and everyone should have one. I try to get all my people that buy real estate and they always get one. Also, I manage over 100 properties and I tell them to buy it. When something major goes wrong, you're going to wish that you had some kind of insurance plan in place and it's not that expensive.

My garage door wouldn't close. It will go down partially and come back up. I called American Home Shield. I have been with them for many years and the customer service has always been right on time and within 24 to 72 hours, somebody is calling. I’ve never had any complaint. I’m very gracious about that and as long as I can afford to continue service with American Home Shield, I will. However, I don't like Greenway in my house. They weren’t very considerate of me. They replaced the hot water heater and they messed up. I had to buy the pan for the hot water heater, which I didn’t mind, but at that time, I didn’t know that it was my responsibility. And when they took the pan out, it’s straight beside the place where it sits and then never came to replace the wood.

When I called to report that, the manager from Greenway was very rude to me. I also called American Home Shield about it. At first, I was complaining why should I have to buy the pan and they explained to me that it wasn’t covered, that that was my responsibility and I understood that, but it was just the way they had to remove the pan from the area that it sits in. The contractor had to come back out. He's a nice young man and it didn’t take him a good minute to fix. He fixed the motor and I didn’t think anymore to have him to look at the door opener on the garage for it to go up and down and then I forgot to ask him to look at the outside of the garage where the security code that I have.

Instead, I have to keep a remote in my hands to open the garage where you punch in your code. It doesn’t work, but I don’t worry about that. He came back again and fixed that. It was just screwed behind the pad. I really like him. His name is Justin and he just told me if I have any more problems, just call him. The most important to me is having an insurance on your family because you'll never know when something might break. So I told many people about American Home Shield. My experience with American Home Shield has been very positive and favorable. I submitted claims over the phone and the experience was straightforward. I haven't had any trouble getting somebody on the line. I may have to wait for a bit but their reps have been very responsive and attentive to my problem. They followed up very quickly and I didn’t have to wait for an inordinate period of time so I was quite pleased with the service.

My most recent claim was on my heating and the contractors came out the next day. I've been pleased that I've had the same company to come out each time. When you have that continuity, the contractors know what they're going to be looking at. The same thing happened last year. I had GE products in my home and when I had a problem, they sent out repair people from the same company. That person was familiar with my appliances so, I liked that. A couple of years ago, they sent me a contractor I was not pleased with and I let AHS know that. And I haven't had that contractor since.

I had to file a claim at American Home Shield because the dryer wasn't working, and everything worked out fine. But what happened with another claim that they didn't cover, which was unacceptable, was that I was in the shower and everything started backing up. I was covered with soap and shampoo and I felt cold water coming up around my ankles. So, I immediately shut off the water. And I noticed that the water was backed up so that it was almost to go over the lip where the tile was and it would've gone on to my carpeting. There was nasty water with stuff floating in it and coming up in my bathtub, and it was also coming up in my toilet. So, I got a washcloth and I dried myself off as much as I could. I called my husband and when he got home, he called American Home Shield.

AHS said that we would hear from somebody within 24 to 48 hours, but obviously, we could not wait. They gave my husband the name of the plumbing company that would be calling us but my husband tried to call them and they did not have a 24-hour line. Then we started trying to find someone that could come and help us immediately. We got someone to come out and a plumber that works in our area was nice enough to come out but he doesn't do that kind of work. But he was able to get the water to recede so that we could, at least, use our toilet. And then, he called someone that he knows, also in the area, and had them come out first thing the next morning, which they did. They cleared the line from the house to the streets.

However, American Home Shield refused to reimburse us. I wrote a letter and sent it to them, and they wrote back and said that we needed to wait for their people to contact us and that they were not going to cover it because we used someone outside of the people that they use. So then, they said I could appeal it. I sent a second letter and I explained everything in more detail. My office also sent copies of the bill from the two plumbers. But there was nothing they could do. It's not acceptable that they don't do business with a plumbing company that has a 24-hour line. I heard it's been good to do business with their people, except that when my husband called the company that was going to contact us within 24 to 48 hours, he just got a recording. We had to take action on our own.

Even though we pay American Home Shield every month for our fee, they just let us down. They've been really good in some claims and suddenly, they've been really bad in others. One thing that we learned early on is not to use their automated system because their automated system is not effective. If you stay on hold, you need to be prepared to be on hold for about an hour to an hour and a half each time you call them. It's unacceptable that you pay money and then if you want them to help you, you have to be on hold for an hour to an hour and a half. That's what my husband did the night with the plumbing issue. My cousin lives about a mile away and he's the one that recommended AHS, and she's canceled them a couple of times too. They're not very easy to deal with.

I have used American Home Shield one time since I've had them and it has been a nightmare. I cannot talk with them on the phone. I was trying to submit a claim for my garage door opener and I waited an hour one day and then an hour and a half another time. When I got a little perturbed about it, the rep said, "Hang on a second. I'll get right back to you." But, she put me on hold and I thought that she did it on purpose just because. However, the claim went well. Once they got the work done, the people that they got had been good. The techs came out so I paid the $100 service fee through the computer because it was next to impossible to talk with anybody. The garage door people were good and they took care of it but I still got a bill for the $100 which I already paid. Another thing was that my service for the first year went up by $4. I haven't been able to get a hold of them and it went up $4 and nobody can tell me why.

I tried to call them regarding the $100 and I did get through one time. The rep told me not to worry but I still kept getting the bill on my email so I got on my computer on my bank site and I called up where I paid it. The bill was paid and I made a copy of it. I got the bill they sent me and I turned in the bill and I mailed it to them. Finally, on February 1st, I got this letter saying, "Thank you for contacting American Home Shield. This is to verify that your contract has been cleared of a past due trade call fee due on your dispatch number by Overhead Garage Doors. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused".

There's absolutely no reason for American Home Shield nowadays because some of these other places I've called have a deal where you can put your phone number in there and they'll call you back. You don’t have to stand there on the phone for an hour and a half. That's just crazy. Also, I had to have the contractors come back out and adjust it but they gladly did it and I had no problem with them. I would tell my friends to get somebody else. One of the things that I thought was very strange about this was that when I Googled the best home insurance deals, they were one of the best. However, I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

Our HVAC was making a high-pitch noise and it wasn’t throwing heat right. I called American Home Shield and they got a hold of a heating company. They sent a guy who found out it was the induction blower that was bad and he ordered me one right away. And within a day or so, the part came in and another young man had come out, installed it and did a very good job. At no time at all, we had heat and it was working great. I’m noticing a little bit of noise but it doesn’t do it all the time and it hasn’t affected my heating so I haven’t worried about it. It could be just a bearing getting warmed up.

Also, both the guys who came were phenomenal and they cleaned up after themselves. I would take those two gentlemen anytime. Everything went very well and I was thoroughly impressed this time with the contractor. When they called to say that the service person would be here within a certain window, they were very professional, down-to-earth and they made sure I understood what was going to happen. They treated me right and all it cost me was my $75 deductible. Nobody tried to up charges on me and I was happy with them.

It was a good experience, unlike the plumber they sent when I needed one. I had a toilet that had busted down at the johnny boat on the bottom and I thought I’d save the service person some time so I lifted it off and put it in my truck to haul away. I called American Home Shield and told them what happened and they sent a plumber out. He looked at it and he said I hit it with a hammer or something and did it on purpose, which I didn’t. And AHS wouldn’t pay for the toilet because of what he said.

While he was here, he told me that instead of using American Home Shield, he could fix this and that. He kept putting a price tag on everything he could fix. I told him he was very unethical. I pay $75 for him to come out here and he was supposed to be fixing the problems anyhow. He said he didn't have time to fix them but he would come back. And I could just pay him straight out and he'd fix them. It was ridiculous. I didn’t call American Home Shield at the time because I never gave it a thought, but I was infuriated.

Unlike the HVAC contractor, the plumber was the sole owner and plumber himself, all in one. And it showed when he got here and started to say that he could put a better toilet in and that AHS was not going to pay for the one that was broken. He told me he would show me his product that was supposed to do a better flush job. I told him I didn't want his. It was a train wreck. I couldn't remember who he was but if I ever have a plumbing issue, I would tell American Home Shield not to send him again. That aside, American Home Shield treats me really well when I call them and I don’t have any problem with them. They are very efficient and they do a fair job. I recommended my son to them and he had their contractors several times and he was happy with them.

We had an air conditioner problem and American Home Shield sent us some company out and said that our coil was bad. We didn’t think the coil was bad so we questioned it but just said okay. Then, they wanted to charge us to fix the coil and they also wanted to charge us extra money to do all kinds of other stuff so we said we didn’t want to do that.

Then we contacted American Home Shield about replacing the coil and they wanted to give us 300 bucks to replace the coil, but we can’t buy a coil for anywhere near that amount. They gave me some lame excuses that they buy so many that could get it at that price. We talked to Lore’s Air Conditioning Company and they said they can’t do that. We complained and it took a lot of complaining for them to send another company out. It turned out it was not the coil. The other company came out and fixed the problem with no money out of our pocket. Everything went smooth.

Then, we had a problem with the heater. We asked never to do business with the original company again. We have no issue with them except they were trying to gouge me. I didn’t know what they were doing and they were rude. American Home Shield told us that they would not send this company out to us but who did we get? We got that same company. So then we called back and went round and round. Finally, they sent the other company out to do the job.

It was a horrible experience because we had to go days arguing with them without us having heat or air conditioning at their respective times of being broken. Overall, they are satisfactory but the issue has really tarnished my image of American Home Shield. We've been with them for at least about eight years or so or longer and we have two different policies with them. But we’re considering going somewhere else and thinking about not renewing because of this.

I’ve been with AHS for many years and they have bought me a new microwave oven, a dryer, and a ceiling fan. I recently submitted a claim because my bathtub was draining slow. I didn’t have anybody to come out for five days. But when the contractor came, he was on time. I had some remodeling done and the technician said this happens all the time. It got some crud in there when they were working on the lines and we were putting in new fixtures. Eventually, he got the tub draining well.

The only thing I would ask AHS is that when we call in, they should answer the phone so I would be able to talk to a person. One time, when I was trying to get all the details worked out with my microwave oven, I stayed on the line for an hour before I spoke to anyone. By the time they get on the phone, I forgot what I was calling about. And when I call in for a service call, they’re more worried about the credit card than anything else. Every month, I pay for service and I know they try to do everything electronic and automatic, but we seniors don’t want the plain, old system.

Also, having to wait an hour on the phone to talk to them to get all the particulars worked out was ridiculous. I’ve wondered whether they would allow me to buy a new microwave. They only responded after I bought the microwave and sent the receipt. I then got my check and things went fine. But they need a lot of help. And they should elevate their music because they play the sorriest music in the world. Nevertheless, I’ve recommended AHS several times. In fact, two of my daughters got AHS.

My recent claim was with the company called Mr. Fixit. The issue was with the air duct, the heat pump. The system wasn’t heating the house like it was supposed to. The tenant called me and told me that the bill he got doubled and was $300. I submitted the claim and the Mr. Fixit guy got in touch with them and I gave them the tenant’s phone number. The tenant called them several times to follow up with them. The guy never came through. So, then I called American Home Shield to complained about the company. I never want to use that company again ever. I tried to speak with someone on the phone. They were very helpful and we resubmitted a new claim. That gentleman contacted the tenant so they’re trying to work out something right now on what date they would actually come in and do the work. I've been with American Home Shield since 2005 and I'm pretty satisfied and I’ve actually turned a lot people onto them.

It would be great if there was a rating system for every company on the website. For instance, like that Mr. Fixit company. Since the guy didn’t follow up or contact the tenant back, I should be able to, by the click of a mouse, give them a 1-star or zero rating and explain why.

Years ago, I had a very good relationship with American Home Shield. Then I signed up again and I didn’t have too good of a relationship. I had a little leak in a filter by the pool and I kept calling and calling but they kept putting me on hold. They said, "We'll get back to you." But I never spoke to them and never gave it a courtesy to come back. For a half hour I sat on the phone and there was nothing but music. I had to have somebody else go through different channels to finally get somebody to come out and do that work. I turned over to my daughter and they somehow got directly with somebody and within two days the problem was solved. He was very nice, did a good job, fast, knew what he was doing, and perfect.

I had AHS for many years before with no problem. I picked up the phone, called up, gave them the problem, they called me back, told me they're sending out a repairman and at that time it was just $65.55. But since I signed up again, I had nothing but problems. Also, now, it's $75 for a call and that was it. If I have a problem, I don’t want to have to go through this again. That was a very raw experience. I'm thinking very seriously of continuing because I think my contract is up. I was dissatisfied with my experience.

I talked with American Home Shield's rep about my claim and then I sent them the quotation that the aerobic installer service gave me to correct it. I paid $140 for the option to take care of all the aerobic system but the rep said that they do not cover the septic system and that they just cover my ejection pump on the septic system. Over a period of time, the seals between the different sections going down into the ground to the tank have become unsealed so when it rains hard, the water runs into the tanks. The water pump pumps out the water but the water runs right back in there so it runs almost continuously and they said that it's not anything that the contractor do. The pump did go out and it was replaced so that was good.

We keep having problems with our refrigerator so we had to call American Home Shield about three times. Each time, they sent out someone to try to fix the problem and they continued to send someone out until the problem was fixed. We were really satisfied with them. Whenever we have a claim, we usually call them any time of day. We then get to their automated system and we tell them what the problem is. And then, they'd call back in a few hours to tell us that they have someone they have contracted to do whatever the problem is and give us an appointment date. And then, the technician would call us and let us know when they're on their way and then we had to wait. With our refrigerator, they told us that the earliest that they could get out was a week. But we called back and explained to them how important it was that we had our refrigerator. So, they got someone out within a couple of days to fix the problem for us.

We had to take everything out of the refrigerator and put the food in a cooler until we could get it fixed. Most of the time when the technician came out, he tried to fix the problem, turn it back on, and then he would do something else in the next three or four days. We had to call up and go through the process all over again. So, I did lose some food in the process of getting it fixed. But so far, they had it fixed. Overall, AHS has been helpful to us and our experience with them has been great.

If I could get logged in, I submit my claims online with American Home Shield. But sometime I have login issues, and if I couldn't do it on their website, I need to submit my claim on the phone which takes a long time. So online is much better because I'd be on hold a lot more when I'm on the phone. I had a claim for one toilet upstairs that had a sewage smell coming out of it and we had to keep the door closed the entire time. We have a septic system so we could smell that through it. AHS sent two technicians out for our claim. The first one told us that they would be early in the day between eight and twelve, so my wife took off from work to stay here. But we were called close to twelve and their rep said their techs would be out towards the end of the day. My wife voiced her opinion that we were told it would be earlier but he said that he couldn't help it.

When two people finally got here, they spent less than three minutes and left. They said that there was nothing wrong with the toilet and there was nothing to fix. Unfortunately, at the time, one of our children had recently taken a go in the bathroom and left some in the toilet. But he did not flush it because we told them not to use the toilet. So, the techs said the turd flooding in the toilet that wasn’t flushed was why we were smelling sewage. They talked to my wife like she was stupid so she was livid. She reported back to the company, then the head person above those techs was called out later. He was wonderful. He came out, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it within a small amount of time. He had been out here once before for something else and he had been nothing but great both times.

Except for that incident, my experience with American Home Shield has always been pretty good and I would recommend them. However, if I have a concern, they usually sub it out to out of town people in Oklahoma City who have to drive all the way to Tulsa to do it when there are people that are here in Tulsa that would work better with the scheduling. My wife used to be here for those repairs and she said that when the contractors come from Oklahoma City, it's almost like they schedule everything else first and we're the last place on the stop before they head back as we are on the west side. But when it's a Tulsa repair person, they're here on time and there never seems to be a problem.

I had a little bit of an unusual experience with AHS when I filed a claim for my microwave. I tried to get some help at the beginning and the problem was we couldn't find somebody in our local area to take care of the claim because I'm in a somewhat rural place. I had to look for somebody myself. When I found one, they told me they were a representative for American Home Shield and that cleared everything up quickly.

The contractor diagnosed the problem, made the contact with AHS and let them know what was going on. A part had to be ordered and it took a little while for that to come. As soon as that was done, the contractor came and got the microwave fixed and it has been operational. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed because it is getting out there and aging.

Working with representatives who are already part of the AHS system is so much easier. It's wonderful when they have someone they've worked with already. But when I get somebody who I just have to find on my own because of where I am, for AHS to work with them and trust them is sometimes a little bit of a heartache. It takes a while and sometimes they ask them questions that are somewhat embarrassing. There was one occasion when I had to find somebody myself. They did the service but AHS just kept challenging them. So when it's somebody that comes from outside their system, that could get hairy. Sometimes, they aren't been able to work out a relationship with somebody in our local. I hope they find somebody that is in the system.

The contractors who came were very good and very well-educated on the refrigerator. They ordered two parts for the motor of the ice maker, but they didn't work. I can hear it working, but it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do. Then, they replaced some of the drawers on the inside, but they were still falling apart. Before I even got them out of the package, they were falling apart. Maybe it was the glue or how they were sealed, but they just were not working. The quality was not good. The unit that I had was probably a lemon and AHS replaced it.

The reps that I dealt with were very nice. They explained to me what they were going to do as far as replacing the item. They then chose the unit for me but they told me that if I wasn’t satisfied with it, I can look for something different and I can upgrade. So if I wanted something different, I could have gotten it. But I was satisfied with what they had chosen. Get AHS.

I am seriously considering dropping American Home Shield because every time I have some issues, I would call AHS and fight with them which I couldn’t do anymore. They were trying to get me to sign a two-year contract but we’ve been with them since August of 2004 and have never had issues like the ones we have now. They had people come into our house as if it was their house. They would also tell us that if the guy they sent breaks something, AHS would not be responsible for it, even if they were AHS' subcontractor and not mine. I pay them a monthly fee for them to fix up my appliances. In addition, I contact them via phone 90% of the time and they put me on hold for hours and hours. I’m just sick of it.

I am extremely pissed at the kind of service that I’ve been getting lately. There was a guy who came out recently who didn’t do anything. He supposedly replaced a circuit board in my dishwasher but he never even opened it up. A second tech came in and replaced the circuit board. He had to take it all apart. The same thing happened with the refrigerator. The tech said that they fixed but didn't. They then said that both parts AHS supplied were defective. I was shocked at the kind of behavior I get from their people which was unacceptable.

I am paying Sears a lot more for the contract that I’m getting ready to sign with them. I’d probably have more deductible on the service calls than having to put up with AHS. I believe that American Home Shield is becoming a scam because they keep sending the same guy who does nothing. Moreover, if a customer calls in to complain, AHS tells them to go to hell. In addition, when I called and talked to the customer service rep, I said, “This is the guy who called before. Listen to the recording.” However, nobody did anything about it. When people ask me, I tell them to not take American Home Shield. They ripped me off and charged me money but provided me diddly squat.

I have been with American Home Shield for probably 10 years. I mostly file claims over the phone. My daughter would do it online if the call volume was too high because one time I must have sat on the phone for two hours not realizing I had the phone down. I was watching a movie and nobody ever came on the phone, so we ended up doing it online that day. But with the online issue, once I wanted some heating services done, and we punched the wrong thing. What happened was the guy who came out and serviced said he was coming to check the air conditioner and I didn't need air conditioning in November. I needed heating. Had I known that, I would not have let him into my house to do the service. I still had to pay for something I didn’t need. That was the only problem I had with that. That’s why I prefer to call as I can talk to someone, but I just don’t like the wait time.

Recently, I had my heater done. I must have called them three times. The first two times, I wasn’t satisfied at all ‘cause the guy who came out twice couldn’t figure out what the problem was. The house was hot. I was experiencing $1000 electric bill at least and the bill was always $200 or $300, so I knew it was a heating issue. I was getting dissatisfied with the company ‘cause I kept calling and I kept paying $75 service charge, and I was not getting any help. And then the $1,000 electric bill was a heartbreak. When I had the second guy, he was laughing at my bill. A $1000 light bill wasn't funny and that guy never went beyond the service.

Finally, I called American Home Shield and they finally sent somebody out who fixed my heater. This guy must have went and looked at the top services and he fixed it, so I was quite satisfied. I was very impressed with him and I would go to the moon with this guy because he went out and beyond. He was extraordinary. I really appreciated that ‘cause I was still looking at a $1,000 bill again, as much as $1,100. So all the time my heat was going under the house. Had the initial guy caught it the first two times, I wouldn’t have had this high electric bill. I don’t ever want him to come back to my house.

I needed to pay them and I feel as if I had them come out three times for the same issue. I already paid one guy twice. Why should I have to pay the third time on this same existing problem I kept paying for and I never got satisfaction ‘cause the house is still cold. Charleston, South Carolina just had snow three weeks ago, so outside was about 30 degrees, and inside my house was 60. That’s not warm, that’s comfortable, but it’s not heated. Nevertheless, I like American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

I generally find AHS very, very hard to deal with. It takes several phone calls and up to several hours to sort things out. I had I think an issue last year. Our air conditioner failed and I asked about getting money so that I can upgrade the system because what they were offering wasn’t really a great long term option. And just dealing with them on that is terribly not helpful. And the amounts that they offer were really not good. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m an absentee landlord in a different state from my property, I wouldn’t use them. And quite often, the quality of the people that they send is not good. And the people seem to overcharge. If something ends up being an item that is not covered or is covered partially, the people that we have to deal with are not what I would choose myself.

And we go through a process and somebody will call us in 72 business hours. It’s a little bit disingenuous. Instead of saying it could be up to five days, they express it in terms of business hours. So it’s really misleading. If we’re calling on a Friday, we hear from someone the following Friday, ‘cause 72 business hours is five days. And if one got an upset tenant in a hurry, or get issues that happens every year, with air conditioning in Houston and try to get somebody for assistance, it doesn’t happen. If it was me, I could move to a hotel. And when the service providers come out, they’re going to give a suitable array of time slot. My tenant, who is a dentist, is only available on Friday. And we’ve had some contractors who just said they’re not available to come out on a Friday or not available to come out for weeks. So we then have to start the whole process all over again.

We also had a pool pump motor fail in Texas. We called them and it took them two days to get back to us. And when they did, they said, it can take up to 72 business hours, which is another week, to get back to us. They don’t have any idea what would happen to a pool in nine days if it’s not pumped. It’s going to go septic. It’s going to need an acid wash, literally cataclysmic. Their time frame wasn’t working for us. And they said that’s the best they can do. And when the pool went completely bright green, we called somebody else and had the motor replaced. It was out of our pocket for $450. When they finally showed up in day number nine, they said they’re not covering it. They basically let us try to mitigate our loss, and then leave us on our own when we try to do the best for everybody. Our experience is not unique, unfortunately.

Usually I've been satisfied with American Home Shield, but some of the vendors that they have are not quite on top of things. The last issue I had was plumbing and they sent a plumber out. He said he fixed the issue, but I'm beginning to have the same issue again. So I called AHS today to let them know that. Then the time before that, I had one for my furnace. The tech came out and they needed to add a pipe. They needed to get approval from American Home Shield and AHS gave it, but I can't get the tech to come and finish up the job and I haven't heard anything back. BestWay Mechanical did the plumbing, and they handled the furnace as well. It's been very difficult to reach the division that does the furnace work. They don’t answer the phone and you can't leave a message.

But the AHS reps are usually on it and they provide timely service. When I called back to see why I hadn't heard about the approval on the furnace, the rep immediately called BestWay to tell them that they had approved it while I was still on the line. They do a good job, though sometimes the wait time is so long and it's discouraging. I'm a business owner during the day and I can't stay on the phone 30 minutes waiting on somebody to pick up. My daughter has the same issue on that. Going online and scheduling an appointment is easy, but in this case where I’ve got other issues going, I need to talk to somebody.

When I bought my house, the seller bought American Home Shield for me. They came to rekey my doors and it was good. I submitted that claim over the phone and they contacted me via email before they came out and let me know they were coming. My sister-in-law was there when they rekeyed it and she said they were very nice, really quick, and very informative. They also checked in after they got through and made sure everything was okay. I’m pleased with their service. And when my AHS expired, I went ahead and renewed part of it so that I could get some help with some of my big repairs if I needed it.

The contractor AHS sent in our most recent claim was good. He brought a shower head and installed it. The one I had was leaking and broken and had to be replaced. I wanted a shower head with a spray on it and that little knob on the end where the spray is is very small and my wife doesn't favor that. She likes that rainfall shower head and I wanted an attachment because being not as young as I used to be, I can’t bend over like before. My wife discussed it with them. She was hoping to get a little larger one but the contractor said they brought the largest one they had. They wouldn't be able to do it. They said they couldn’t do anything unless we start over. Despite that experience, I'll recommend AHS. We've been with them for about a year now.

I got the dual air conditioning and furnaces, and the one for downstairs was freezing up. We called AHS to make a claim but we couldn’t get through on the telephone. The wait time was at least an hour and we had to go online to get it done. Their website was very smooth to navigate, and submitting the claim was very quick to do. But I could not type in a comment to request the previous contractor that we had and I had to take whoever AHS sent me. Piedmont, our previous contractor, was outstanding and knew what they were doing. They called me and told me that they were on their way. They found the problem in 15 minutes, ordered the electrical panel and in three days, they came back and put it on. Everything was up and running well, and I would like to get them back.

When I talked to the lady from the contractor's office that I got coming in this morning, she was a little abrupt and awful sharp. They called the house phone but I’d rather use my cellphone. I asked her if she wanted a number to contact me with, and she said, “No, they’ll just be out between 3:00 and 6:00.” I finally told her that I wanted to give her my cellphone number in case I was out in the yard. She finally took my cellphone, but I didn’t appreciate the way she was handling things. Other than that, AHS seems to be on the ball. They worked with us and we got the payment set up where it automatically comes on my checking account. I was with another company before AHS, and I didn’t like the way they do things so I dropped them. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield.

In the process, I asked about two other claims and they weren't satisfactory. One was regarding the wiring and controller of my large spa outside. My interpretation of the contract says that it was covered and they said that it was covered when I called four months ago. However, this time they said that it wasn’t covered. I'm unhappy about that and I'd be calling back to speak with a different person who might give me a different answer.

Leak was coming from my Jacuzzi tub in my bathroom down into the living room. The contractor suggested to us what we probably should do so that the problem won’t happen again. So we went to the store, bought caulk, and did what he told us to do. We put caulking again where the base of the Jacuzzi tub meets the floor. He said the water probably was feeding to those small cracks. It needed to be re-caulked. And, so far, we haven’t had that issue anymore. Hopefully, what he said to do really works. However, I hate that the price went up. I joined American Home Shield in 2014 and when someone would come out, I only had to pay $60. Now it went up to $75.

The first time I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, my experience was awful. We were a brand new customer and we didn't have an account number. We couldn't use the internet because we didn't have the contract number. So, we had to use the phone and we called the 800 number, but it took us hours. In fact, it took us two days to reach somebody on the phone. The phone is just awful. But once we got an account number and we could use the internet, it was a piece of cake. My interaction with their rep was okay when I reached them. However, it took a couple of days before somebody came. It was four days the first time but it has been a little better, like two days since we used the internet.

Also, AHS made an offer that I can have the entire house re-keyed for a set price of $75, but they couldn't find anybody to provide the service. They said they'll make good with the offer if I negotiate a contract with a contractor. I called a couple of locksmiths and they just said, "Yeah, I'll get back to you on that." Maybe it's because I'm too far from the city. Therefore, they don't have a contractor that can do locksmith work. We had the plumber and the heating contractors and they were excellent. They showed up when they said they were going to and they were courteous and made everything work.

The main water heater failed on a rental and although it's always easy to open a claim, it took a lot longer than expected to get the situation resolved. There was some confusion on the water heater because it’s hooked up to solar but it’s not any type of special water heater. It just has a solar panel on the roof. I initially sent out Just Plumbing but the guy couldn't do the work and ended up going out there to take pictures. But he told me what was going on. It was a water heater failure and he also gave me a number to the place that came out and did the dry-out. They came, cut the hose in the wall and dried it all out. They were helpful that way but I kept getting the runaround as far as getting it fixed and I talked to a lot of people to get it resolved.

I put the claim in at the end of December and it has been a month and it's still in the works. But after I got through everybody I had to talked to and the authorizations, they called me back and they were apologetic about what happened and how the confusion came to play. I’m okay with it now. I can see how the water heater could be confusing. Besides, it’s getting resolved now. It's scheduled for next week and I could've got it done last week too. But the tenant didn't want them in there so she rescheduled and the delay is on her now.

He knows exactly what to do, finds it, and fixes it.

AHS is expensive but once you paid the annual fee, the service calls are $75 and that's helpful. I could do fixes myself in a lot of cases but sometimes, I like having the choice on which I don’t want to deal with and then I could just call and pay the service charge and have the work done for me. We had a stoppage. I filed the claim online because I couldn't get through to the company. A tech came, went under the sink, stuck something down and said it was all fixed. It wasn't all fixed because when we ran the water for a little while, it started backing up in both sinks. So I bought Drain-O and tried to fix it myself. It didn't work so I called up to have another company come out again because I didn't trust the previous guy. But from what I was told, American Home Shield's policy is to send the same company out. The same guy came out and tried to snake it, but it didn't work. He told me they have to go in through the roof but they don't do that. My husband said, "Forget about this. I'm calling Roto-Rooter." Someone came with a professional snake and everything was fixed $305 later.

It was a lot of time in between that I was dealing with a backed up sink because the contractor wouldn't cooperate at all. It could have been avoided if the guy knew what he was doing and fixed it the first time. He was walking all over the property and looking for another drainage line. It was ridiculous. I've had good experiences with AHS but this was a very costly one. Not only do they charge the $75 to come out but we're also paying $56 a month for the service. I was very upset about spending all that money for the sink and they should have compensated us in some way.

I've had two heating problems and I submitted a claim to AHS for both of them. One was a rental property and the other one was my home and both of them happened around the same time. One of them went extremely well and they handled it right away. However, I had a big time issue with the other one. All I needed was a thermostat replaced. I put the request in back in November and it did not get handled until two weeks ago. The experience was terrible. I've been with them for a while, so I wasn't that taken aback. I don't think the request got to the vendor initially. And then, when it went to the vendor, that particular vendor came out just to look and I never heard from him again.

I dealt with the same issue for about three months. The only time I spoke with them was when I initiated it. So, it's as if they didn't give a good crap. They did not do a proper follow-up. I don't think that they did proper vetting in the first place. Had they done that, I wouldn't have experienced this in the second place. And their follow-up after being put on notice several times was little to none. Almost to the point where I am seriously thinking about leaving them and going to another company. And then, when the second service call went out, they handled it so well. They sent out that same vendor that I used that finally fixed my issue regarding the thermostat. I like the service people and that may have saved them.

I've been with AHS several years and it's been okay until I have this most recent experience. I had another experience with them too about two years ago and ironically, it was the same contractor. When I first dealt with this guy, he was under one name. And then, when they sent them out to me back in November, he was under another name. But it was the same folks and the same issues. So, they need to vet the contractors better. They need to be aware. It appears that when a contractor runs into problems with them all they do is lay off a few months then come back to them under a different name. Also, when a complaint is made AHS need to get back with the customer within 48 hours, and make sure that the issue has been resolved.

Last month, we smelled a hint of natural gas odor and called our utility company to check it out. They found a leak in our furnace valve. This was during a brutal cold spell. Scheduling with the AHS-assigned contractor was easy enough, although we had to wait a day - we survived with space heaters and electric blankets. When he came out, he took a quick look and very casually said, "yeah, it's done" (or something close to that). He told me he had "like 15 jobs" ahead of me, and that once AHS called me, I should ask them about "cashing out". Sure enough, when AHS called me, they informed me that the HVAC guy had asked that the completion date on the job be extended to January 19th. That would be two weeks and the temps were in the teens. So, I asked about the "cashing out" option. This call was coming to me Friday evening and the "cash out" people were gone and wouldn't be calling me back for 24-48 hours... starting Monday!

At this point, I felt like I had no choice (1 1/2 year old grandson was visiting, and I was worried about pipes freezing and adding to my problems), so I moved forward with a different contractor to have my furnace replaced. I figured the cash out wouldn't cover what I was going to pay, but it would go a good distance. I was VERY WRONG. AHS called me Monday and informed me that my cash out amount was...$628. I understand that they are "paying out at wholesale", but I asked her – “Are you telling me that you could purchase a brand new furnace AND pay your guy to install it... for $628?". "Yes, you have to understand that we are a large company and we get bulk discounts on the equipment..." I can only imagine the quality of furnace they would've used.

In addition to that, their contractor assessed an additional $1250 in charges that would not be covered by warranty for the install. The people that installed my new furnace found nothing exceptional in the installation that required extraordinary measures (or equipment). From what I've read, this isn't uncommon, as the contractors aren't paid much by AHS, so they make up for it with inflated non-covered charges. I'd already committed to getting my furnace replaced, so I took the check, canceled my coverage and moved on. Lesson learned.

I've been waiting since December to get my dryer fixed. It would dry and then it wouldn't dry, so I called and filed a claim. And then I also filed one for my freezer 'cause ice wasn't coming out. I filed both claims the same time and apparently, American Home Shield has a policy where if you make two claims on the same ticket, they can only come out and fix both of them at one time. So, even though my dryer went out, if they take three months to fix the fridge, I have to wait three months for them to come fix the dryer as well. They won't come out and fix one and then come back later and fix the other one.

I told them not to worry about the freezer and to just get my dryer fixed. They said I could get another freezer, but they could only give me $600 because that's how much it would cost to repair it. I went to go and look at fridges and I didn't see anything close. They said, "We could start working on the dryer now that we don't have to worry about the freezer." So then, I called back. They said they sent off the part for the dryer on January 8th, and the contractor company should've had it and they should've come out and fixed it. I called the contractor company and they said they were waiting on AHS. They came back out two weeks ago and they said it needed another part. I asked how long it would take and they said five to seven days.

The only person that I've actually spoken to that was half decent at the contractor company was a lady named Sadie. She's the one that said, "We're going to have to call back AHS and see 'cause they're supposed to be ordering the part." Everybody else was like, "We don't have any information. We're going to have to call AHS and you're going to have to wait. Call back five to seven business days." So, that's pretty much all I've been getting back and forth. I've been with AHS for a while. I had service with them before and I never had this problem. I would tell others to save their money and go buy new appliances when they break or fix it by themselves. Having AHS is not worth it.

It was cold as heck and they really didn’t come to see what the actual issue was. They could’ve just done that and found out if they had to order parts or not. Instead, he called and told me, “Oh, the warehouse is closed. I shouldn’t come out there to check on your furnace. I have to do that when they open up.” Even if he had to still order parts, I would have liked for him to come out there and see what the heck is going on. It may be something that he could fix quickly. And if it wasn't, at least he was out there to see what the issue was instead of having us sitting in limbo and freezing.

I gave them a call and told them that. And then once I did that and told them how unprofessional it was for them to do that, they came out the next day. They did a good job because they knew I was highly upset. They’re a pretty good company, but how they did me was just really wrong. Everything else, I’ve had great experience with. Everything has been smooth depending on the time of the year like when I called about the plumbing, someone showed up that same day to look at my plumbing leak. But, if it was the summertime and you're having an air conditioning problem, it might be a week before somebody can come and get to your house. It depends on how backed up everyone is. For the most part, my interactions with the contractor were very pleasant. It is worth it if something big goes out but for small things, it's hard to use it because the service fee has gotten so high on it.

I had two claims with AHS around the same time which was unfortunate for me. During the winter, my water heater went out and so did my furnace. The furnace was a previous repair that I had with a contractor I used to have before. I didn’t have a problem with the contractor AHS had for the furnace. But the previous one they used to have two years ago kept on coming and repairing for the same issue. This time, I called AHS and told them that it was a previous problem that I had with a previous contractor that I had. They told me they no longer used that contractor. They opened the claim and they sent me an email of who was going to come and service my furnace on that same day.

AHS got on this so quickly and they actually needed to condemn the furnace. AHS got on my heater claim really quickly too and they sent a gentleman to do it. The only delay was for the product to come in. Other than that, most of the contractors that AHS had contacted me within 24 hours if not less than that. Since the most recent repair I had with them, the appliance has been performing great and I've had no problems with it.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since I bought my house in 2011. I like the quick service they provide when it comes to a claim. Throughout the years, things have gone bad and I can’t complain about the price that they offer for what I have because I got the top of the line. It comes with everything and covers appliances, bathrooms, and stovetops. The deductibles are reasonable. The only thing is sometimes when I call them during a certain time and the call volume is high, it could be a long wait. It’s beyond their control because during this time of the year a lot of people call in for furnaces and stuff like that so it becomes a little difficult then. AHS recommends I file my claim on the automatic filing of the claim or do it online, it’s quick. But beyond that, I don’t have a problem with AHS. The great piece of the deal is that they work with me immediately.

I recommend AHS quite a bit. I have a lot of coworkers and I deal with them buying homes. I tell them that I could vouch for American Home Shield as they've been great. I’d say, “Look, they talk about PMI and I hate to compare them, but that’s one of the other services around here, which was recommended to me when I first moved here. But then I had a coworker that recommended to me American Home Shield so based on when I started reading, I decided to go with them." I'd tell them, “Pull PMI services and how much it costs you. Pull American Home Shield and see how much it costs you and how much your deductible is." Everybody that I talked to have then gone with American Home Shield for the service they provide.

My microwave oven was not working and American Home Shield sent out someone who called in for the part which was no longer available. It showed that my microwave was a counter top but it was a built-in so AHS denied the claim. I said that it was not right because the microwave is built in to the cabinet. I was very upset, but the rep was very nice and they set up a time for a second opinion. So AHS sent out a second person and they took pictures and did whatever they had to do and sent the claim back in, and now I'm waiting for the new microwave to be delivered. There were two different contractors and they were great.

Everything was done well except that it's been so long that I've been without a microwave. I am a microwave person and not having one has not been very good. I do a lot in the evening for my grandchildren and I'm used to being able to stick leftovers in the microwave for my husband, which he hadn't been able to. It's been very inconvenient. It's the same thing when my washing machine quit. It takes so long for something to be done, and then there's also holding on the phone for so long to talk to somebody. I was talking to my sister-in-law and the only reason she doesn't have American Home Shield or one similar is for exactly the same reason. I also kept getting billed for the service calls that I've already paid for.

The bathroom faucet wasn't turning to hot all the way, something was blocking it. I've had three claims so far, but this is the first one I filed online, which is a lot better than the previous one where I waited for over an hour. Doing it online has been very helpful. I've dealt with an Assessor before because I had some complications. I just went throughout the checker for some of the issues that I had for the first claim. She was really nice and handled the situation right away. She was on top of it and got back to me as soon as she was done speaking with the contractors about the issue.

Their contractors were okay, but they could be better. I've put the electrician who came on the list of contractors I don't want to come back. I had to call to a second opinion because there were a lot of issues going on with that contractor. The plumber was really nice and got the job done. I felt there was an issue with the mainline. There was a blockage and the water was coming up the toilet and then, eventually, in the shower. The first guy that came out, lifted the toilet and snaked at the toilet. Then he snaked the shower, but he didn't snake the main line in front. He just kept saying it's not a main line blockage. When somebody else came out with a camera, they noticed that it was a mainline issue. I would recommend American Home Shield. Their deductible isn't too bad and the issues get taken care of. They just have to handle their call volume better.

I was happy with the contractor who came out to my house to fix my oven but I was very upset with American Home Shield and the service they gave me. The control board was messed up and I already knew what the problem was and explained it to the contractor. I even prepared them with the part number but they gave me a complete hassle about getting it fixed. It took them a few visits and I didn't get it fixed until almost Christmas. I ended up having Thanksgiving dinner at someone else's house.

Also, I've had to wait on queue for an hour every time to get a hold of someone. It was very inconvenient and not what I expected. I didn't like the way the representative handled everything either. Every time I spoke to them, I felt like they were making it more complicated. It seemed like I was talking to a wall because the representative that we spoke to never seemed to resolve my issue or even communicate with the company they contracted to come out. I pretty much had to handle things with the contractor but I couldn't really do anything either. Everything was for the approval of American Home Shield. They suck and I don't like the way they conduct business.

I've been on hold for an hour and a half and I won't do it anymore. I refuse to stay on hold that long. It doesn’t matter what time of day I try to do that. It's still very hard to get through to them.

But once I finally got a hold of the company though, as far as their work and sending people out, that was good. Everything was on time. Since the repair the refrigerator has been working fine. Before I had to clean the water where the water was on the bottom all the time and now I no longer have to do that. I've recommended them already to about three other people. They're a good company. They've always seemed to send people out and they're very quick on that.

I had issues with my two ovens, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. And then, one of the ovens freaked out again beyond the callback period, but AHS recognized that it was all screwed up, and that the delay was caused by the shipping of the parts because they were back ordered. So, they decided to call it within the 60-day window, and accommodated me for that. The part they ordered out arrived, and SEARS came out and fixed my oven. They rebuilt the little unit where my clock is on my oven, instead of giving me a new one. It was perfect. Things break, and if I my oven went out and I didn’t have AHS, I would probably use two to three weeks looking into where I’d get my new oven. AHS is well-worth the money, and I wouldn’t own my home without it.

American Home Shield's response is usually pretty quick. I'll call and tell them what our problem is and they would tell us when we're going to hear from somebody. Our most recent claim was for a very old refrigerator. It was in the house when we bought the house and had no problems with it until we started noticing water leaking inside it. My husband called and a day later, the appliance man came. He took a look and estimated that the refrigerator was about 30 years old. He also said it was so old it could not be repaired. We were treated very well and respectfully by the contractors they sent and it went very well.

American Home Shield sent me through email the refrigerator replacements that they would recommend. I selected the one we wanted and it took about a week for it to get there. American Home Shield was wonderful and we have a brand new refrigerator. And it didn't cost us anything. We pay monthly to American Home Shield so essentially, we are paying. However, we did not have to put out any money for the replacement. We recommend American Home Shield to anybody who'd listen.

I bought the house in April of last year and my realtor asked for American Home Shield in closing. So far, I've had some good and bad experiences with them. Every time I’ve ever called them, I’ve always had to wait more than an hour. As a matter of fact, one time, I fell asleep and woke up an hour and a half later, and I was still waiting. So the wait times are ridiculous.

I’ve had three different claims with AHS and the first time was for a leaking pipe. I called and they sent out a plumber. He was a kid and he missed it. Then the pipes leaked further, causing damage to my ceiling. So the same company had to come back out again but this time they sent a totally different plumber. He knew what he was doing and pretty much pulled out half of my ceiling. Both techs were friendly but the second guy had more experience. But what they did was a patch job and they told me that I’m responsible for getting somebody else to come back out and fix it back to the way it was. One company also came out to fix my washer. Their tech told me that he’d have it fixed that night, then all of a sudden, he wouldn’t. He said it would be a couple of weeks before the part came in and they could reschedule. So it was two and a half weeks later that they fixed it.

He basically told me that I need to call a roofer and left. I had paid $75 and he said to call back into American Home Shield to see if I could get a refund. The warranty is useful when something is broken but the money you're paying when you're not fixing anything it seems like a waste of money. They told me when the person would be calling. My interaction with the claim representatives at AHS was flawless. They were very helpful. The contractor called on point, the day they said he would call. He came, and within 20 minutes he was finished. He was knowledgeable in his craft. He knew exactly what it was about five minutes into taking the front off. The washing machine is working much better know and I don’t have to go to the laundromat. The quality of work performed by the contractors AHS sent has always been excellent.

I tell everyone I know that have a home or is buying one to make sure they had AHS's policy. If they don’t have it, I’ve given them the information to obtain it. And if they have it, I’d tell them that it’s worth the weight in gold, because it generally pays for itself if something ever breaks down. AHS is doing an excellent job. The only thing I wasn’t too happy with was the fact that they have different price point depending on what area you live in for your service call. Where I live, my service call price went up. A friend of mine lives further down in South Jersey, and their price is actually lower for his service calls. They should’ve just keep the service calls one price no matter what area you live in within the state. If they have to make different amount, it should’ve be based upon the state. But I guess they got to do it based upon the service industry.

So now, I have two heat pump units and one has a 10-year warranty. The other one has seven years left. And I wasn’t going to pay that kind of money for the refrigerator, the washer and the dryer. I just pay the premium and the copay and things can be fixed quickly. The most recent claim I had with them was for the leaks in my master bedroom and basement's bathroom. The technician they sent was really friendly and helpful. He tried to help me diagnose the problems. He fixed the basement leak quickly and determined that it was due to the pipe's aging. I was also using well water, so it was also a nature problem.

Then, for the master bedroom's bathroom, he told me that the I needed to reseal the leak to know what the problem was. He also told me that it was due to a device failure and that a new one was needed, but it was out of his authority. I then resealed everything by myself but it was still leaking. The drywall also wasn't fixed. So I made a second call. Since I liked the technician who first came out, I requested for him. He then came out a second time and fixed all the problems.

My pool motor had been going out for awhile and the last time I called in to submit a claim, American Home had me set a service request. However, when the service person came out, they said that according to the contract with American Home Shield, they couldn't do anything about it until the motor is dead so I had to pay the service fee. It taught me a lesson that I need to dig a little deeper before I schedule a service request. When my pool motor went out again, I called in to submit the claim as opposed to doing it online because I want to make sure the item was covered and the rep whom I talked with was helpful.

The only thing with the contractor was that he installed it and he went on his way but he didn’t set the equipment back up. It made all the water drain out of our spa which overflowed to our pool entrance and we had to call our pool person to come the next day to fix it. My advice to the contractor if I had talked with him on the phone would be to realize that his job is not only to install the equipment but also to make sure that either he turn it off so it doesn’t work and let the homeowner know that that was what he has done or he put the settings back the way they need to be. Everything has been working fine though since our pool person came out and adjusted everything.

We've been a client of American Home Shield for a very long time through several homes and generally, we're very pleased with the services. Occasionally, there will be an issue but it's not the company itself. It's more of the vendor and that happens with anything so we tend to still contract with them each time we move to a new home. I would recommend them and I did. I tell people the value that I've gotten out of having a service and how things happen even with a newer home. It's really a benefit to have a service like that.

We had to call American Home Shield to get them to okay Total Air to come, and the reps from American Home Shield were very good about getting all of the information and giving their names. They were very courteous about getting this help through. However, we had to keep calling and the contractor came and came and came and did what they could. It worked for maybe a day and a half each of the three times that they came.

It was the coldest part of the time of our lives. We are elderly and this was when we had all of that snow here and we didn’t have snow in Charleston like that. We had to take the heaters where we went or stay in the area where the heaters were. We didn’t have a heater like that in every room. We had to take the heater with us in the bedroom to go to sleep at night. So the entire house was very icy. The temperature in the entire house went below 50 on the thermostat. We couldn’t go in the shower like we wanted to because we didn’t want to get wet. We were coughing and blowing our nose.

The last time which was the fourth time that the contractor came, the young man had to replace two parts so now the unit's working pretty good. I wanted a copy of what the contractor had said to American Home Shield and what was wrong with it. He said that the company had to get the permission to get the parts from American Home Shield. And it finally happened. He did it and he put it in. He was very conscientious. He cared and was excellent with what he did. He was so apologetic that they had to keep coming. He gave the information to his upper person to get the parts needed to be replaced on what he picked up. It took awhile and he kept trying to get it through. He had a lot of jobs to do, but he made sure he got to us in the evening to fix it. Even though it was dark, he came. We have recommended American Home Shield to others.

American Home Shield has been very good. The boiler went out and it was not working properly. They sent out a guy who did the boiler also went up in the attic and was checking out the unit itself to make sure that the thermostats were connecting together with the boiler thermostat and the air handler thermostat. He noticed a problem so he said to call AHS back. We called to get another schedule and now they've gone ahead. Now, there are some repair parts they got to put on the air handler, and the thermostat is working great and so is the other thing, too - the boiler is working good. They've got to come out one more time, but other than that, everything is fine.

Submitting a claim to them is simple. Within 24 hours, somebody calls and schedules to come out and work on the problem. Unless it's an emergency, like if you are an elderly on an oxygen tank or you got little children, they try to do it faster. They send out qualified people. They get the job done. It is not done as fast as if you were to just call one of your friends or one of your people you know and get them out of there and get it done. That is the drawback but it is expected. Nevertheless, I would recommend them. If you got a house that is 10 years or older, you might want to think about getting a home warranty.

I recently filed a claim online for my furnace. The contractor AHS sent was fine, however, AHS doesn't use contractors who are timely on weekends. They said they'd get somebody in 24 hours, but it took them four days with the last two claims I've had. In one case, I had no water and in another, I had no heat. Their contractors don’t work Saturdays and Sundays. So if something goes wrong on a Friday and they're not busy, they'd show up on Monday, otherwise, they'd show up on Tuesday. If I didn’t have a home warranty, I would call until I find a contractor who's working. I'd ask, “Can you get out here today?” And if they say no, I'd call the next one.

American Home Shield didn't care. Although they got back to me right away, they just farmed it out to a contractor and then, they were done. I have things going on during the weekends and I can't cancel last minute on people like I had to do twice. It was embarrassing. It would cost me more, but I would cancel my home warranty because that's not acceptable. Then there was a third incident, this time with the air conditioning. It was hot and the AC was out for a couple of days even if it wasn't a weekend. At that time, the problem was with the contractor. But the other contractors have all been good and have fixed issues in a timely manner. When they said they were going to show up, they did.

I'm a widow and I find that AHS is a good thing for me to have. When my furnace stopped working, I called AHS and they set up an appointment with one of their vendors. The service guy then came out and he was wonderful. He was very friendly and upfront with me. He told me what the problem with the unit was and that he didn't have the part needed to fix it. He told me that he would get the part and that he would give me a call in the morning. That was what he did exactly. He came back the next day and fixed the unit. I have had people ask me about AHS and I recommended them. Their service is good and I've not had a problem with their repairs. They've always come through for me and although their prices have gone up a little bit over the years, I get that.

Their customer service is usually pretty friendly. The only time I had a problem with was trying to get through in the summer time when it was 100 degrees out and my air conditioner went out. It was also like 90 degrees in my house at 6 o'clock in the morning. That experience was a nightmare. I couldn't get back through to AHS and when they gave me a vendor's name and number, I called the vendor at 6 o'clock in the morning and left a message but they never called me. I called AHS again and was told that they would get back to me within the hour. But they never called me back so I wound out having to call somebody else because I had an 88-year old mother and I had been sick for a year. It was almost $400 out of pocket.

When I called initially to get reimbursed for it, the person that I talked to read her script about how I had to have an authorization from them. I told the rep that I was on the phone with their people for I don't know how long, trying to get the authorization but I couldn't get through so I had to do something on my own. I went to their Facebook page too and told them what a disappointment it was. They made good on it and they reimbursed me for every penny. I've had AHS for a long time. They replaced and fixed my filter, replaced a couple of garbage disposals and their contractors have been out numerous times fixing different stuff. I've never had a problem with them aside from that incident with the air conditioning.

I have been with American Home Shield for years because their Pick 10 program was pretty good. However, there was a time when if I call, I would have to be on hold forever but that has gotten better. My furnace when out and I called to put in a routine service call for them to come out and have a technician come to take a look at a self-plaster. In the meantime, my furnace started back working again. So, I called American Home Shield back to tell them that. American Home Shield then told me that the ticket would be open for 30 days. So, if the furnace went out again, I could call them back so they'd open a ticket up again which I thought was great.

Then I sold my house and moved to Tucson, Arizona to be with and help my daughter and granddaughter. Everything was okay and until I get $100 charge which drew my account into overdraft because the money wasn't there since I wasn't expecting any charge to come through it from anybody. So I called my bank and asked them to do an investigation. I was so upset about the whole thing, I ended up calling and asking American Home Shield the following morning.

They went into their system and said South Plaster had put in a claim and that they were on their way out to our residence when I called in to cancel. But what really ticked me off was that South Plaster put down a date when I had already left the house. So, how could they come out and do a service call when I wasn't even living there any more during the day they said they came out?

So I called American Home Shield back and asked, "As many times and as long and however many years I've had you, guys, and I have always renewed my contract for years with you, guys. When was the first time I ever not paid you, guys, for anything you came out for? Whether it was my furnace or the AC or anything else, when have I ever not paid you, guys, whatever the service fee?" I told them to look into my account so they could see how many times they've been to my house and I have always paid them. I had to call back every single day and stay on it so they could launch an investigation and take care of the problem. I'm not going back to American Home Shield after this experience. They should've done their own due diligence. I would also tell my friends to shop around for other home warranty programs. They should look into their research too and ask a lot of questions as far as the contractors the company uses.

We called American Home Shield to submit a claim because our dryer wasn't heating. Their reps were fine and they set us up an appointment immediately. The contractor came the next day. The guy who came out didn’t speak English really well but he knew what he was doing. He lifted our dryer upside down, showed us what was wrong and fixed it immediately. He was amazing. We've never had a problem with American Home Shield. We have an old house that we bought and we've had six calls in eight months and American Home Shield has always been really good. After the repair, our dryer has been working fine. Having a home warranty is extremely valuable since we know that we are not going to have some huge repair bill come out of the blue when we're still trying to get things settled. We're planning on reapplying with American Home Shield because it has been a very good experience.

We’ve had numerous claims with American Home Shield through the many years that we've been with them, and they've handled them all well. I filed a claim online recently for our refrigerator and their website was very good. We had numerous repairs on the refrigerator and after a while, since it is over 20 years old, it’s time to for it to be replaced. Also, the contractors have been good and they’re doing well. We have AHS pretty much since we've owned the house and they’ve always been very courteous and quick to respond to our emergencies. Recently, we had an issue with our AC unit. It's been very cold here so we were running it more than usual. We went online to submit the claim with American Home Shield and their website was very user-friendly. The tech who came out was very helpful and very friendly, too. We had to wait one day for him to come out but it was because of the bad weather that hit the whole country. So, they were busy. But after he came out, we had issues with the AC again a couple of days later. So, I contacted AHS and the lady that I got was very helpful. Since it was part of the original service call, I didn’t have to resubmit a request. The tech came out again and fixed the AC. It's been great so far and we haven’t had an issue since.

The seal in a booster pump for the cleaner on my pool was leaking so American Home Shield replaced the seal and that required a replacement for the impeller. I submitted the claim online and their website interface was okay although I’m surprised sometimes because I have to go find my contract. I have this renewed every year on the anniversary date and it’s okay to log in and it shows valid through the next year May. I have to go in and select which contract. Thinking there’s only one contract, it would just automatically default to the contract that’s available. But it says, “Your contract is expired.” But then if I go in and pull down another one, it says, “Oh, yeah. This one’s good.” It has an old one that it’s defaulting to when I log in and I have to find the existing one that is currently available.

I have had to call at times because the online system didn’t show it so it’s been a mixed bag. I’d really prefer the online because a lot of times, there’s a wait when you call so there has been at times, issues trying to find the correct contract. Other than that, it’s straightforward. The reps are very professional and very helpful and the technicians have all been good. One of the reasons why I keep renewing is I typically move a lot and I’m in areas where I don’t know different contractors so it’s good to know that someone is reviewing them and making sure they’re valid. And I’m sure if they get complaints, they’ll get deferred from the list.

A lot of people will get twisted up about what’s covered and what’s not covered. In my mind, American Home Shield has done a good job of making sure I know what that is whenever I sign up for the contract so I’m never really surprised by what’s covered or not covered. I just work within the rules. The contract can be a little convoluted and the terminology can be confusing to people if they’re not familiar with what is what. It’s a legal document so once you get a lawyer involved, it’s going to get complicated. American Home Shield is a good insurance policy against the major breakage in your home. I use it more than my homeowner’s insurance.

There was a panel inside the heating unit that was going bad so the air conditioner's heating unit wasn't turning on when it got to the temperature where it needed to turn on. I submitted my claim for American Home Shield online and I got a callback within 24 hours. However they weren’t able to come out for about five days because they were booked up. It was right at the beginning of the cool weather and everybody was calling in with their heating issues.

We didn’t have any heat for a week but when the contractor came out we were lucky and he had the part in his truck. He was able to change it right then and it has been working fine since. He was very nice and very courteous. We were thinking about getting one of those smart thermostats and asked him about it. He gave me his insight on that and told me which ones he would recommend. It was nice to get that information.

While this experience was good I also had bad experiences. I had a plumbing issue and the gentleman who came looked like he was a homeless person. He was unpleasant and not very courteous. He said, “We don’t do that." I have had plumbing issues three times and each time has not been the best. Moreover, they don't have the best plumbers. One time I had an issue with the toilet not filling backup with water. They came and fixed it but it only worked for a day so I had to call it in again and they had to come out again.

It's annoying that I had to take off of work to wait here for them for four hours. This plumber was more professional than the other one but didn’t do the job right. I'm a realtor and they are not who I recommend. I've had them for many years and I have thought about switching but because I didn't want to go through the problem with a preexisting thing if I switch to a new company I stay with them. But if I had to do it all over again I would not go with them.

It happened when we had a bunch of terrible snow, and it was super cold. And our house is 100 years old, too, so I was thinking if I was going to make it. I was able to turn the furnace on and off and I had a bunch of space heaters. So, we weren't terribly inconvenienced, but it was a little stressful. The contractor they've sent out was lovely. He gave me a heads-up that he was coming and the repairs he did were absolutely satisfactory. And school ended up being canceled and I worked from home that day, so it worked out.

We have three heater units at our house and one unit is over the garage. We also have a small primary over the garage and a relay on that unit had gone out. The guy from Myers was Johnny on the spot, got the part, came back and fixed it. The other heater is downstairs in our main living area and it was running on top but not producing any hot air. It doesn't get super cold here in Alabama, so we noticed the heater was not working when it was getting cold. We called American Home Shield and the rep initially thought I was calling about the same heater. So when the technician came out, there was confusion because he was with us and it was a different unit, but they worked it out.

The technician sent by AHS said he had to order a part but he has not called us back or returned our phone call. It has been a week and a half since and we called and left him a message last Friday because we were worried as we’re going over the weekend again. The issue seemed to be some kind of valve replacement and it could take longer to take the part in, but it would have been nice for him to communicate and tell us that it could take a week or a month.

Overall we like American Home Shield and my parents have it too. I don’t have to jump through 10 different hoops as these guys are generally easy. We just call and say that something's messed up and the guys come out. We had a different home warranty company before but it was like they didn’t want to believe at anything. It was always a hassle with them just trying to get somebody out and they didn’t want to cover anything so it was a nightmare.

They just took a couple of trials to get the resolution.

American Home Shield was user-friendly but I’d love it if it costs less to have a visit. I hope they don't raise their rates again. But American Home Shield gave me peace of mind just knowing that they’d go in and they get everything resolved. I’ve been satisfied with their work. There are things that aren’t covered but generally with that $75 fee most of the technicians will use that means to charge with the parts if something isn’t included.

I was without a washing machine for a few days, it was more like having a machine that sounded like a motor barreling through my house. I made the claim to AHS for a serviceman to come out. He contacted me and I followed through whatever they told me to do. There were a lot of repair involved. They were going to have to send two people up to try to do it and they could not even guarantee it was going to be functional when repaired. So I purchased a new washing machine and AHS switched it out. I picked the machine and I did not take what they offered me. I sent them the receipt and they took care of it very quickly and I got a check from them. My only complaint with AHS is when you call there's always a very, very long waiting time on the phone.

They even called and followed up to see if the contractor showed up. It's been a great experience with them.

My son said that the very first contractor was very rude. When he came in, my son gave him the booties to put on his feet because our carpets had just been cleaned. The contractor got mad about that and was slamming things down. But when he came back, he was a lot more professional. On the other hand, the KitchenAid person who came out for the microwave was awesome! He was so friendly and really nice. Even the guy who did my water heater was great. I would refer them to someone because the service was so good. With everything combined, it took about a month for them to fix all of the appliances. A year and a half ago, my 10-year old washer went out and they determined that it needed to be replaced. I did what they said and I picked it out, but it took about four weeks before I got it. That was not good. Both American Home Shield and the service people blamed each other so I don't know who was at fault. Other than that, I've had good luck with American Home Shield. I've been pleased with the idea of it. It’s like insurance on your appliances and if something goes out, you only have to pay a $100 max to fix it. And if it can’t be fixed, you get a new appliance and you still only pay a $100.

I am a new customer to AHS and I cannot say it's been a good experience, We used the online tool to submit three requests at the same time as we had a dishwasher, stove and washing machine all fail at the same time. The hook up to the service agent was efficient and the guy turned up when promised to look at the items. Here things began to go wrong. The service tech was very uncommunicative with my wife. The Dishwasher had been disconnected from the water supply as it was flooding our basement, only after talking twice to AHS on the phone (this took 1.5 hours of hold time to get thru) did we find out that the repair tech wanted the machine reconnected to diagnose the fault, not one word was said to us at the time, no message was received from AHS, if we had not called to ask why we had heard nothing for 10 days we would still be waiting in ignorance.

This obstacle seems to have then stopped the two other issues being processed by AHS. To get to a further movement on the washing machine in particular has taken 3 further calls so far, each call taking on average 30 to 45 mins to reach someone. First it was "the tech has not submitted the report" then it was "the report needs to be evaluated" then it was "we will call the tech and instruct repairs to happen," then I call the tech he has heard nothing but he says he's surprised AHS will repair the unit as the cost of repair will exceed replacement. Then I talk again to AHS and it's, "Oh yes it's to be replaced. Let me transfer you to that department." 1 hour later cut off. Call again, 45 mins later speak to someone to be told, "Yes it's replace. Let me look at the comparable model, ok now we need to submit for approval on the comparable model, we will call you back, no call back so far 24 hours later.

I asked what is the comparable model being told, "We cannot tell you until it is approved." So here we are 20 days after reporting our problems none are resolved. Dishwasher not even started. Stove, I haven't even tried to progress this as the washing machine is my priority. We have no washing machine, half a stove no dishwasher and no idea when anything will get fixed. I have spent 5 hours on the phone. To date average hold time for any call is 30 to 40 mins, once you get thru people are lovely but nothing progresses to conclusion. Finally AHS has no mechanism for its customers to complain. I wonder why?

I have used AHS for only 6 months and regret using this company already. Only 2 service requests and both failed miserably with no resolution after $200 service fee cost. Every call wait time is 32 mins to over an hour. Then you get false promises of what's to be done. To save some time, I'll only write about one of these experiences - My stove vent fan is bad so first service was Nov 2017. It's now 1/31/18, same situation, No repair and No replacement. Lack of communication from AHS and their contractors. No Accountability. Untrustworthy. Unclear and shady procedures within AHS. Different reps will tell you different things and never follow through. They never call me to update status or followup even after they promised.

Luckily, I'm proactive and call them but wait time is about 1 hour or longer. Then they promised they'll have the unit removed and install new one. I paid partly for the new unit that they selected for me. When unit arrived, contractor said it's not perfect fit so I have to get modification and that's my cost. It's their contractor's measurement and it's AHS who picked out the unit. I paid partly for the unit because their bottom grade unit is not comparable to what I have. Ok fine, I can get a granite company to cut the stone (by a millimeter?) but the contractor has to remove the unit first, right?

The contractor dragged 2 months without an appointment to come out to remove the unit. AHS said they have authorized them to come remove it so I have to keep calling them. 2 months dragged on then I complained to AHS to get different contractor. AHS then told me that it's not up to me to decide, it's up to them. They promised to call them to work it out.

No one called me back. I waited a few days to contact AHS again then they told me that they will not pay to remove the unit. They will only pay to install it because they won't pay for both. Doesn't make sense. I complained that no one ever told me that in the 3 months and dozens of calls with them. They have everything recorded so they can't deny it and didn't deny it. This rep knew I was right. He apologize but I won't accept it. He basically just told me that they are not paying and that it's too bad. I want service to my unit as promised.

I request to talk to a manager right away and he said they don't have managers that can talk to me.They have to submit a request and have them call me back. As per my request, he wrote in a formal complaint and request a supervisor to contact me within 48 hours. It's been 48 hours, no one contacted me. It's why I'm on ConsumerAffairs and next will be BBB.org and every other warranty review organization and blog out there.

I spend $800 out of pocket in total with this company in 6 months period. If I had used that money to get local pro help. I would have gotten it done. With AHS, you'll have to wait for everything from calls to service to any resolution/repair if any. I waited and followed every instruction they gave me for 3 months. In the end, they lied to me and refused to remove the old unit when they promised multiple times that they had authorized it and see it in the system. For the future, I will take notes of every conversation with date and time and name of the representative because I heard too often that "oh that report is somehow not in the system. I don't see it." They record everything. I don't buy that for a second. I have 2 rental condo which I was considering getting warranty for but decided to test drive AHS first. Glad I test it out first. It's not happening.

I submitted it online instead and got a call from the contractor within an hour. The technician came out the next day so it was an excellent experience. He was awesome and the garbage disposal was fixed really quick. I was very happy with it.

We had a repeat problem with our freezer. It was not staying cold enough to freeze things and ice kept melting out of it. During the first time, the person came out but the freezer was cold at that time so they could not do anything. The first few times, it was a Sears person who was sent out and he was fine. He said that the policy says that if they cannot see what is wrong, then they will not do anything. That was frustrating when your ice is melting out of the freezer. This time, luckily, when the guy came out, it was too warm and he knew the fan was not working. So, he put an order for a freezer fan and then later replaced that. This was the third time they have come over the course of the year, and this time they actually have fixed the problem. They have all been professional and polite.

I filed a claim online and the website is pretty easy. I phoned them up the first time I made a claim, but then I found the website to be so much faster. I’ve been pretty happy with their service and I’d recommend them. For a house with my size with all the appliances, having AHS is a peace of mind.

The process was very smooth and the contractor that was sent out was very good. He called me and he was very friendly and polite. He came when he was supposed to then he looked at the problem and figured out what was wrong with it. He had to order the part which took a bit longer than he said, but it was not a big deal. Then he came in and put it back, and now the microwave is working fine. It was a very favorable experience and I would recommend American Home Shield.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years and I've submitted a handful of claims, and they've all been resolved well. Recently my toilet was running and they sent out a plumber promptly, but it didn’t fix the problem. He came back out and he still hasn’t fixed it. I put in another claim today and they've scheduled him to come out again. American Home Shield has done their end of things, but the problem is a little trickier than the plumber thought.

However, American Home Shield doesn’t take calls. They put you on an extended hold so they know no one will take their call. If you're a returning customer on an issue, you ought to be able to talk to somebody. Since they've already sent somebody out, you should already be in a queue where you can actually get to somebody much more quickly. I didn’t know when I submitted a new claim if I would be charged a new rate for it. It would have been nice to be able to have somebody to talk me through it. Also, the coverage has become more limited over the years so the things that were covered are not covered now. I had a problem with a leaky faucet outside the house and it wasn’t clear that that wasn’t covered till the guy came out. American Home Shield does a good job but people need to read the contract closely and know what's covered.

I made a claim for the stove, fridge, and dishwasher a couple of weeks ago and the rep at American Home Shield has been great. But the folks that they contracted were a little difficult. One guy did not show up until after then, they were not the nicest, friendliest folks. There were three different people for the three appliances and a four-hour window. It was ridiculous. The first time, the guy didn’t show up and I had another four-hour window to set up with him so it was a waste of time. The stove guy was okay while the fridge guy got better. The stove had a missing part that the technician said that AHS didn’t cover it. I ended up ordering the part because it was too much hassle to deal with. Then, with the refrigerator, the technician adjusted the temp and it seems to be working better.

The dishwasher guy was nice but he gave some report that AHS denied the fix. It would be great if I could get a little bit more insight from AHS to understand why a claim is denied. But the woman I spoke with wasn’t very receptive to discussing it so it was a very difficult conversation at the beginning until I had to ask very specific questions. I asked about what was covered and I know they cannot list every specific instance of what will and won’t be covered. I was trying to explain that to her and she wasn't getting that. It wasn't the best conversation until I explained to her exactly what the part was. So, she got a little bit better and sent a GE guy out who was great. The GE guy was the best service person.

If I had a good conversation prior and I could maybe assess it myself, that would be great. We’re spending our $75 to get someone out and I take a half day off to be at home which I had to do twice for the appliance guys. I’d tell people to find out who they contract with because that was not a question that I asked. Then, do the review because the reviews on American Home Shield seemed to be good but try to find out who the contractors are like in their area.

The customer service was terrible and my experience with American Home Shield wasn't very good. Last year, the compressor of my air conditioner went out. My claim for that issue went okay and they got my AC working, except that I had to pay $500 for Freon. Then the heating unit went out in the AC and when I submitted a claim for this issue, the rep told me that it would cost $600 to get the heating unit fixed because they'd have to put a unit in, then they'd have to put in Freon which costs $90 a pound. I told them, "No way," and that we'd just sleep with blankets. But the rep told me this was stated in the contract I signed with AHS.

I called and asked for a supervisor a month ago and she finally called me today. I said that I'd call the Fire Department of the State of Florida to get their opinion since it was a ripoff. I had no coverage if I had to buy Freon. But she told me that was the way it was. I asked for the return of my $75 deductible but this was refused since the contractor had already come out. But the contractor was overcharging. The heater still doesn’t work, but I'm not going to pay $600 to fix an AC and also pay $500 for my AHS warranty.

A couple of years earlier, my compressor went out on my air conditioning unit and the company they sent was a total nightmare. It took that company five weeks to get it resolved, so I didn't want them back. AHS sent some other company and they were good. However, I had to call them back because when they left, the furnace was making a loud sound. American Home Shield sent the company right back and it turned out that one of the guys hooked up some of the wires wrong. They fixed it and since then, the furnace has been working fine. My next claim was with my microwave and I got the microwave delivered okay, but the company that was supposed to come and install it has not been successful. I called the company yesterday to let them know and they switched me over to someone else. That was the only bad experience I’ve had.

The first time they were supposed to come, which was a Wednesday, we had bad weather here in Lake Charles. So, I didn’t expect them to come that day. But then he scheduled me for Thursday, a Friday, and a Saturday. And I was going on a trip, and they never called me to say that they weren't coming, and never called to reschedule the appointment. I called yesterday to let the company know that. But as far as AHS, I have no complaints against them. Everything went well. Their claims process was easy. Being a first-time user, I had a few little hitches. When you call you have to go punch a number and it took me a little while to get to the right department. American Home Shield had sent out Hotboys for our air conditioning situation. Don't ever deal with this people. They came out and told us that it was not under warranty, but then, they gave us a $5,000 air conditioning unit which we could buy through them. Then, they charged us for the air cooling that they never put in at all.

Recently, we contacted American Home Shield again to let them know we had a build up in our water system that had been dealt with several times. So they sent someone out to take a picture, and the next thing I heard on my answering machine was the office calling to tell me that my $100 claim was denied because the person that came out felt we had pulled it apart. Since I keep everything documented, I called back to try my best to get to Amanda, their representative, to tell her that I didn't pull anything apart.

They said we had to go through a process to have another company come back for follow up. They also told us they have guidelines and can't replace anything. The second people that came out said out it was nature-related and they would credit me back. We've had this problem ongoing because of the power pump we have. So they unplugged the sink to keep it going and then took the $75. Overall, the people that American Home Shield uses are my biggest beef. My issue is that the people that they are leasing do very poor work. And the people in their resolution department are some nasty folks. They're the ones that left the message on my machine about me tearing my faucet apart.

You’ll throw the whole kitchen out of the color code." They said, “Okay, then we'll give you $500. Take it or leave it". The stove was expensive and it was a quality stove. I had to buy a stove, which cost me $2,000 but they gave me $500 because they wanted me to either go black and white which will soil the value of the house. We just bought the home about a year ago with American Home Shield included by our realtor. We've actually had to use the warranty a couple of times and it has been a good experience overall. The heater, it turned out, had a cracked heat exchanger and we had been having problems basically since we moved in. It's actually probably been looked at around four times.

So at first it was an issue with the fan. And It think we had a fan motor replaced through AHS. And then a few months ago we were noticing little black puffs of debris out of one of the vents. So I had to call again and a fellow came out and told us we had a cracked heat exchanger, which we were kind of worried about anyhow. So they had to replace the whole furnace. They came and did it that day.

As we found there are always added things that you don't account for. So I think it probably still ended up with a cost around $3,000. We were able to save a couple bucks because I ran the chimney liner myself. So it still cost $1,000 out of pocket, which overall wasn't too bad. So once you think about when you have a type of warranty plan, such as the one through American Home Shield, is that nothing is going to be free. But it helps negate some of the cost, which is nice. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I filed a claim with AHS over the phone for plumbing and appliances. AHS reps were really great. They were very friendly and helpful. However, the first contractor they sent out said they can’t find the cleanout line. My husband works for a plumbing company so he said, “There’s a cleanout right here.” But they said they can’t use those and they left. The second one that came put in a new hot water heater and over-floating which came out of pocket. But they never did turn on my salt tank again. And when I went to turn it on, the pipe busted above and I had to have the plumber come out in the middle of the night to bypass it. I mentioned it to AHS when I called back for the appliances, but they said they’re not going to refund me for it. I don’t even have my salt tank hooked up right now so I'd have to call AHS again and pay another $75.

As for my appliances, the contractors came out, they looked at it and the gentleman went ahead and said, “You need to order some parts.” And then, I told him that the refrigerator either makes ice cubes or ice chunks and that it hasn’t made crushed ice for a while. He said that there's something wrong with the spring. Somebody put it in the wrong way. When he went ahead and changed that around, we now only get crushed ice, no more ice cubes, and the refrigerator still gets really hot like it got cracked all over in the back of it. They were supposed to come back out and finish fixing the dryer.

The washing machine was fixed. However, the dishwasher rack was put in the wrong way so I couldn’t pull it out all the way. I’ve got tired of waiting for them so I fixed that myself. And then, I had an appointment with them but I had a family emergency and I left a message and I have not heard back from them. They were friendly people though. Overall, American Home Shield is a great company. If something breaks in your home, it’s a good backup plan if you’re not able to do the fix yourself. I also told numerous homeowners about it.

There was a leak in my garage and I made an initial call for the first responder that American Home Shield sent in. But that person did not come until 9:00 after one week of calling. They also made two holes beside the water heater that stands out on a stand. I thanked them and told them to go. I then called American Home Shield and asked for another person to come out. The second company was wonderful. As a matter of fact, they had done work in my house before. They knew my name and my address. I even already had them on my cell phone. Within two days from me calling, the guys came between the designated time set and they stayed until 3:00 and they were able to get the leak fixed. They also told me that was not under my slab, my cement.

What was repaired has been working but I need to follow up because American Home Shield said I had to call back but I skipped it. When the plumber makes a hole in the wall, I have to call American Home Shield to have a carpenter come back. We called immediately after the next day to tell them that the problem was fixed and they said they would have a carpenter come out but I’m still waiting on that.

When a customer has a two-step service, like anytime it’s a plumber and they’re having to go into the sheetrock, there should be some follow-up from American Home Shield, at least a one-week follow-up. They get the plumber to come out and do what he does. He would call and make sure that if there is any sheetrock work or anything that we need to know so that we can see if it’s still in our plan and if we need someone out there. That would be nice.

Also, they need to take a little bit more effort in looking at the rating of the provider before they send them out on a call because I found out later that the particular service provider they sent had a really low rating, like a 300. That’s supposed to be really bad. I wouldn’t send that person out to anyone, period. As a matter of fact, AHS should make a rating that anyone that’s under 400, they won't send out to anybody.

Other than that, AHS was responsive and they didn’t charge me for the second visit. I have been with them a long time and have recommended them to my family. The service pays for itself after the first call. The cost now went up to an $85 call. It was different from when I was a part of them 10 years ago. As a homeowner, one should make sure they read the fine print of everything that the warranty covers because there might be a need to buy extra coverage.

When I needed AHS for maintenance work in my house, their work has been very good. I don't use my policy that much but it's been a lifesaver because my air conditioning in New Orleans goes out periodically. If I bring somebody in, it could cost anywhere from 100 to 400 and I may not have that money to lay out. With AHS, I pay $50 a month, which is easy. Then if something happens, I pay $75 for the visit and that’s all I have to pay. It's convenient that way. Also, I’m retired and it doesn’t blow my budget.

When I filed a plumbing claim with them, it was very interesting. I filed it online and it was convenient. Then AHS called me and the people I’ve spoken to were very nice. The plumbers they sent were good, too. On their first visit, they pushed the portion where the clog was situated and water seemed to be running further down the line. However, within a couple of days, it backed up again and the pipes broke due to the freeze we had in New Orleans. I called them and they came out again. They found the access pipe outside and they fixed it without charging me.

AHS should improve their maintenance on kitchen stuff, though. They would try to match what you have, but you don’t have any control of the color. I have a white kitchen and they wanted to give me a black refrigerator. So I'd have to redo everything for the new refrigerator. I also had two burners and the starter on one of them was broken. AHS wanted to replace the stove but said that they couldn't get the same model so they'd get me another model. But I love that stove, plus, my kitchen was custom-made and that particular stove fits in.

The contractor tried to blow it out and tried to hop on it and get it to where the ice would break loose but it wouldn't. And so he said that when the weather warmed up it would melt and it should be okay. Within the next day that actually happened. The temperature went above. It was about 38 or 39 degrees so at that point it finally did break loose and I haven't had any more problems with it.

The technician American Home Shield sent was very knowledgeable and very courteous and did everything that he could do within the limits of my policy to help me rectify the situation. He was very nice. It's not 20 degrees every day for two weeks. Everything is fine and he suggested that I have my blinds wrapped or insulated when I got a chance. He said that would keep it from freezing. So I will do that. I always have good results with my Home Shield. That's why I kept it for so long. The warranty is invaluable to me because I live on a fixed income and I can usually come up with $75 to pay the copay on it, where I wouldn't be able to come up with a $1,000 to fix a major problem. I am very satisfied with having the policy and will continue to keep it.

The control board on my AC that took the reading from the thermostat and told the heater what to do was not reading right. So, the fan stayed on constantly which was not comfortable considering it was extremely cold outside. But praise God the heat did still work some, so it stayed a nice 50-ish in here which was better than outside temperature. It was New Year's Eve when we first discovered it and I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online on my phone. I'm over 51 and so sometimes with websites, I'm like, "Really, can I?". But their website was easy to navigate. I understand and I'm getting better.

The guy came in and had to make two trips. He worked on it the first time and they had to order a part. It was an inconvenience but it's fixed. And you don't know what all those stuff is until you get in there, fix the first thing and see if it affected the second thing and apparently that's what happened. It was one of those things I understand. And the contractors were great. If I had any complaint it's because they were coming out of Birmingham and they were only in our area two days of the week. I thought I could have gotten it fixed a few days if they were in the area. But I get it and it's a lot of logistics. Also, I didn't want to see my electric bill at first but it wasn't that bad. They did a great job. But we have had a situation which I was not thrilled about which was more with the technicians. They showed up, picked it up, and didn't get any responses.

AHS has done a great job for me. I've had them since we bought this house and I just kept it. Anytime we've had an issue, they've been great. They've also been very fair on things. When we had a microwave put, they were like, "Hey, here's your budget. Here are your options, which way do you want to go?" They said I could go to Lowe's and pick up my own and they would just send me a check. I went up there and I was like, "Yeah, I can install this myself versus waiting two more weeks for the dude to come back." They were flexible. It's a peace of mind and easy to use.

I heard a noise from my water heater inside the house last December 29th. It was in the late afternoon on a Friday. So, I checked and the water heater was leaking. It was probably busted inside so I turned off the water and gas. I called American Home Shield and they connected me right away to a contractor. The men came but they had to come back to us within 24 business hours because it was the coming weekend which was fine. Then, when AHS called me back for the appointment for Monday, I told them that I will be out of town for an emergency in San Francisco. So they gave me an appointment for the following Monday. In the meantime, during the weekend that the contractor can’t come, I had 50-gallon water and if it leaked, my whole house will be carpeted with it. I ended up calling some guy and paid him $50 to empty it out so my house won’t be full of water while I’m gone.

Come Monday, the guy sent by AHS came and he looked at the water heater for 5 minutes. He said I needed a new water heater then left. He also told me that he’ll call back in an hour. I gave him the serial number but he didn’t call me the whole day and I had no hot water. The next morning, I called AHS and they got a hold of the contractor. The contractor called me and said they were going to pay and bring another water heater but it will be by Friday. But it was cold that week and I told them I have no hot water. My wife had to go to 24 Hour Fitness to take shower while I had to take the cold shower. So I pushed the contractor and he said they’ll do it by Thursday.

They called me in between and said that there will be an extra cost as it will not be covered by our insurance. He gave me a cost of $585. I told him I didn’t know what it was but I have new wall connection pipes because I had the house remodeled so I told him to change everything. He said it was still not covered and they cannot come until Thursday. So, I called another plumber and he came and took my water heater. We went to the distributor and they exchanged it for us. The new heater cost me $671 and they gave me a warranty credit of $440. So, I was out of pocket by $230. Then, the plumber came, put it back, and cleaned up everything. I gave him $300 which I thought was cheap but at least I got it done by Tuesday.

Tuesday evening, I called the contractor as well as AHS to tell them to cancel the service as I didn’t need it. AHS asked me why and I said that the contractor wanted to charge me money but I can get the whole thing down in that money. It took a very slow call and we couldn't negotiate. I told them that I’ve been taking the cold shower and they wanted me to wait and talk to them back and forth. And on top of that, I had to $100 for the failed service. It was a little bit hard for me and I told the AHS rep that I will not use them again.

But the lady who I spoke with in the morning was nice. I had another problem two months ago and the contractor that AHS sent out was great. Those guys came right away and fixed the problem. I even sent a referral and it was a great experience. I've been with AHS for five years and a half, and they were also great when I had an issue four years ago. I usually have a good experience with them, but the water heater claim happened to be a bad time in a hole, and I thought water heater is an emergency. It was very frustrating.

The technician sent by American Home Shield was okay. However, when he came in and fixed my drainage, he told me that he did not have a work for the garbage disposal, which I put a claim in as well. So I had to request it again and waited for an hour and a half to get somebody, which I did. And then, he came back and fixed it. He changed my garbage disposal. Overall, American Home Shield's customer service is not bad. In fact, they were nice. However, the one thing I was worried about is I waited almost two hours to talk to them. By the time I get to them, I was frustrated.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for two toilets and three sinks and they were fast in sending out a contractor. I told them it was not urgent, so the contractor came out in three days. Although he did a fantastic job, he only did two toilets and one sink. He said he had to go and he needed to do what was on the record. I’m very happy with the service that I received, but not with the after-service. American Home Shield gave me good service initially, but after sales they didn’t call me. They said they will do the sinks, but I couldn't even get through them. I called them about five times and was on hold for an hour. I was also given the wrong number. I was frustrated, but it was partly my fault for not waiting an hour on hold. One day, I called about 5:00 and then there was about a three-minute wait which was much better. I tell people how great American Home Shield is and refer them.

When we moved into our home, we had some problems with our ice maker in our refrigerator. The first company that AHS sent out fixed it right away. A few months later, it broke again. So, I called AHS and this time, they sent out another company. It was a month and a half of it still not working, so I got back in touch with AHS again and they sent the first company back out. The contractor that came out to fix it was great. He's from Busy Bee Appliance and they're fantastic. They were very efficient and they were here when they said they were going to be. The contractor explained to me what was wrong and how he was going to fix it and he did some troubleshooting. It was done within three days and it was fine.

Whenever we submit a claim, we usually get online and say we need a referral for somebody. AHS sends me a text message saying that the company will call me and then within 24 hours, I get a phone call. The representatives have been wonderful when I talk to them. They're always wanting to help and are very friendly. With the most recent claim, AHS rep put in that it was a second opinion so I wouldn't be charged for whatever reason. But, it didn’t go into the system right and I started getting bills. I finally got in touch with them and asked about it. They told me it was a mistake and not to worry. They told me they were going to fix it and to disregard any bill or tax I get.

I’d tell others to get AHS, and we learned that the hard way. When we bought our house in Virginia a year and a half ago, we didn’t get a home warranty. It was offered to us and then the furnace went. We now live in Texas and we're still paying for a furnace on a house that we don't even live in. Since we moved into this house, we made sure that we had a home warranty. There have been quite a few things that have gone out and American Home Shield has stepped up. I just pay my $75 co-pay and they take care of the rest. We like American Home Shield a lot and we've had a very positive experience with them.

I submitted a claim with AHS for the heat pump. That was done over the phone and they were able to get a technician shortly. They sent somebody out from Montgomery and they were the nicest people that I've dealt with. I had to go to the doctor and left my wife to be in charge. She has even bragged on them. They came the first day to look. They came back the next morning with the unit and got the job completed. They stayed till after dark. They knew what they were doing and it wasn't easy where they had to get to. It was under the house and the opening under there was small, but they did it. So far, so good. We have been freezing and the heat pump kept us warm. I'd tell others that my experience with AHS was satisfactory.

Before, I held on the phone for two hours and that was too long to wait. But they explained to me that after all the tornados and everything, they've had a lot of calls. Nevertheless, they have all been polite and tried to keep everything clean when they came in the house. AHS is the best that I've dealt with. I had an electrician here and he used to come within the next five days but he told me to go with AHS and let them do it. So, that's why I recommended them.

I believe in home warranties especially if you have an older home that's 15 plus years old. It's worth it, gives peace of mind, and serves people who don't have $17,000 just sitting in the bank. I’ve used American Home Shield for five years and I just renewed in January. When I first started business with them, I made a phone call to submit my claims. But these days, you can either call them or do it online. They even have an app on the phone now. I prefer going online because it's easy. Also, it’s all temporary on the phone but the computer is a little bit more stable with the emails and going back and forth. The whole thing is usually done within a week. AHS is really easy to work with and they are always good at picking the right vendors to do the work. I just wish they have better air conditioning brand coverage.

I had an air conditioner that went out a year and a half ago. They repaired it but it went out again. So, I just replaced it but I didn't do any claim with AHS because I bought a brand new unit. Then, two months ago, my garage door blew up. The gear popped off at the top of it and came flying down from the ceiling. I requested for service online then I got one phone call from Smokey's Garage Door. Their guy showed up when they said he was going to and he was here for twenty minutes. He made everything better than it was, so the experience was so painless.

We got a problem with the water not draining properly in the toilets. We suspected that it was a backed up septic tank, but we weren't sure exactly what it was and I submitted the claim to AHS. The contractor came out and I paid the $125 service fee. The plumbers that were dispatched said that there was nothing wrong with the internal plumbing. They said the problem was that the septic tank was full and he suspected that the drain field was not draining properly. I was told I was going to need to call a pumper to come take care of that and they couldn't help me. I thought that we were covered for septic pumping and it turned out that we were not. It was an add-on that had to be purchased at that time when I got my policy, and I didn't realize that. I threw away $125 and had to spend another $250 to have a pumper pump the septic tank.

A month later, the septic tank was full again and I had to pay another $250 to get that pumped again. I wish I would have known that I had the option to add that septic pumping when I first signed up for it and that option would have been reviewed because I didn't realize that and would have opted for it, or they could have some waiting period or something where you could then add it on. At this point though, I'm not worried about it because everything’s taken care of now. Other than that issue, my experience with AHS has been great. It has been money well spent. We used them to take care of an air conditioning problem before and they handled that beautifully.

It took 48 minutes before somebody answered the phone and it didn't matter if I called early morning or late in the evening. They need to do something about putting people on hold that long. On the other hand, the rep that I was able to speak to was very helpful and the technician was fine this time because the last time when my dishwasher needed to be repaired, I even called and stayed on hold for 48 minutes to see if the technician was legit.

The refrigerator couldn't be repaired so, they had to replace it. I was disappointed they would offer black when all the other appliances, the cabinets, the stove are white, which the color, apparently isn't under the warranty. I had to go to a store to find one and I thought I could just accept what they offered. I ended up getting my refrigerator and got reimbursed quickly. Get AHS but be prepared to wait.

American Home Shield has always been quick to respond and send out capable people of doing repairs. Now, I have an old washing machine that sounds like a jackhammer and vibrates so much that it dances across the floor. The technicians have been out four times and they still have not been able to fix it. I called them and they kept saying that they were going to send somebody or they were going to make the call to American Home Shield. I should be receiving the call in 24 hours and I never got the call.

I called American Home Shield and they now have a new system which says, their phone lines are so busy that I'll have to standby for over 30 minutes. That's nothing but a maneuver to push everybody over to responding online which I have not done. I finally got to talk to somebody who said they couldn't do anything about it because they have to get back to the repair people and come to some kind of conclusion. I have been without a washing machine for about five or six weeks now. They keep bouncing me around. The first time the servicemen came out, they put shock absorbers underneath it so it wouldn't pound as much and then, they changed the springs on the internals. I tried to run a load in where I had two pairs of underpants and six handkerchiefs. When it went to the spin cycle, it was just banging away like mad. The more load I put in it, the worse it gets.

In addition, the technicians were nice but I couldn't understand them. When the first serviceman came out, I didn’t know how much he understood of what I was saying. I felt sorry for him because he was working hard, trying to make a living but just didn't know how to fix it. They told me that there was nothing wrong with the motor and the transmission but the machine was still banging mad. Also, they were supposed to call before they come out, but they don't. The technicians I've dealt before would call before they arrive and they were on time. It's disappointing and I'm seriously thinking about dropping my insurance with them, but I've dealt with them for years. I've submitted claims for the garbage disposals, my air conditioning units and my furnaces. People used to ask me about them and I'd tell them AHS is great but now, I don't.

I’ve had American Home Shield since I closed on my house on October sixth of 2017, and most recently, I went online to file a claim for my AC. It was really easy to go to the website and fill everything out and I got an appointment right away. I had a service call come out and paid the $75. The guy was very professional and prompt. He did a great job pinpointing the issue and saw that the problem was fairly easy. It was a reset button which he pushed and went on his way. He also showed me the thermometer and that it was blowing cold air so it appeared everything was good.

It was a very good service but the technician should have the ability to use discretion when he has to put in some real effort or parts to fix a claim. It stung a bit to pay $75 to have someone come out and push a red button. With something like that, I would hope or think that that could be looked at, not just for me but also for other people that may be new to a home and not familiar with the equipment yet. But it's good to pay only $75 and it's a nice comfort for a new homeowner to have that warranty in place. I would recommend American Home Shield based on the $75 amount but I would also tell other people to research the Freon costs because the warranty doesn't cover it and it can come to a surprise for some people if they ever have to get additional Freon. It’s in the small print but that should be put out front.

The people who fixed the dishwasher had to order the part and it took a week for it to come in. There were several issues with my dishwasher because several parts had to be replaced and it took about two months to get it finally fixed, but now it's working very well.

Dealing with American Home Shield was easy. Plus, the contractor was professional and nice, and I liked him. Sometimes he was early and sometimes he was a little late, but I liked how he would send me a text message, letting me know he was going to arrive in 15 minutes. That way, if I was running errands, I'd get that text message and know I needed to head home. I would definitely recommend somebody who's buying a new house to get American Home Shield. It's a smart move and there's no reason not to ask for it when buying a house. We put it in our contract and got the seller to pay for it. It's a nice safety net because when we look at a house, we don't have time to check every little thing to see if it's working.

I either go online or call in to submit a claim to American Home Shield, and both are ridiculous. When I go online, there's a delay when I get a call to schedule an appointment. When I call in, I literally have to wait an hour every single time before I can speak to someone, which is annoying. What I normally do is call and while I'm on hold, I take a shower, eat and clean up the house before I get to something. But when I get in touch with them, they're good. Recently, the faucets in two of my bathrooms were dripping. The contractor came, but he had to go to Home Depot to get the parts for the faucets. He was able to finish in a little over an hour.

While the service we get from American Home Shield is good and we've told quite a few of my friends about them, a lot of things are not covered. The person we bought the house from provided a one year warranty, but they only got the basic one. When the garage door broke, the AHS rep said that the policy that I have does not cover it. I asked if I could upgrade the policy, and she said no. I have to wait until the term ends, which means in January. We have a 10-year-old-house, and if anything goes wrong and it's not within the policy, it's going to have to come out of pocket. It would have been great if we were able to upgrade the policy to something that's more suitable for our family.

I waited just for the thrill of it and an hour later I hung up. The chat box informs, "we have no one available." AHS said they wanted to get prices on parts to fix it. The tech said it cannot be fixed in my home. It has to be shipped out somewhere, disassembled, and rebuilt which can take 6-8 weeks! This is NOT what I signed up for when I bought this policy. My husband is 74 years old and blind and I am 71. We find ourselves walking down the road with our dirty clothes over our back to get to a laundromat. I have called AHS over a dozen times and each rep tells another story about why my machine is not being repaired or replaced. Just to get a rep takes over an hour every time on hold waiting for someone only to be told it's being "parted" out piecemeal. The next one says it is in "options"... waited 2 more days, called again and was told it is not in "options". WHAT???

I am no closer to having my washer fixed than when this whole fiasco started. I have had this contract with them for over 4 years and never had to use it before. To add insult to injury I had to pay $125 co pay just to get the tech here to tell me the washer is not repairable. AHS will not respond to anything. They just take your money and leave you hanging. Please do not count on them to help you when you need them. They just say they are short of help. Not my problem. I paid for years for a service that when I need it is not there.

She did not care, and could not troubleshoot; she would not allow me to find a repair shop that could respond this evening, as these are service industries. This is not the first unresponsive, inconsiderate experience. Taking my business elsewhere.

My dryer went out, and the contractor that American Home Shield brought in was excellent and very professional. He did a really good job, and when he was done, he cleaned up his area. He used my vacuum cleaner and took away all the old stuff. My dryer is running perfect now. However, the contractor didn't charge me the $125 and said that they would collect it, but I don't know if that's a benefit. I need to figure out what I can do to get the service fee down because it's too high.

Additionally, the last couple of times I submitted a claim, I had to do online because when I called American Home Shield, I was on hold for two hours. I sat the phone down, started doing stuff and forgot I was on the phone. Then a text message came through saying I was number one in line or that my call would be answered in five minutes, but five minutes would go into an hour, and then into two hours, and I just hang up. I had a question when my dryer went out, and the contractor came back and was very good. Then the next week, my washer went out and I asked if they could get the same person to come out. Within a week, they had me with a whole different person that was not as good as the other guy.

I would recommend a warranty, but I'd tell others to do their research on the pricing to make sure that they're getting the most for their money. There have been times where I've gotten the service that I needed. But when the techs did my air conditioning, I could've gotten better service. Some companies are good, while some aren't that good. Other than the phone customer service, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I have been with American Home Shield for 10 years and while it's a little pricey, it's a convenient service to have. My wife can call them and things can get taken care of when I'm not available. Most recently, my refrigerator's freezer had quit and it had something to do with the electronic syncing devices. I was out of the country at that time and it was my wife who called it in. The technician came in and diagnosed the problem properly. Then he ordered the parts, came back and fixed it. And it worked ever since. However, there was also a button that’s about to quit working and we identified it. But the technician wouldn’t do it without a second call. He wouldn’t expand the service based on the request and only did what he was asked to do. It seems like it would save us money but that’s okay.

But I have issues with their coverage policies and communication. The big issue I've had within their fine print is it needs to be read by everybody that buys because it's very obvious if you read the fine print that some of the things aren’t as clear when you sign up as to what's covered and what's not covered. You have to be a semi-contract person to see and read through all the fine prints. I've had 10 years to do it with them so there are areas I know I'm going to be disappointed and they are around items that they don’t cover and what they do when they cover it.

When I bought the home, I didn't realize there was water running down my wall in the kitchen and we might have missed it when we did the walkthrough before we signed the document. I noticed it when I came back later that evening. There was a line on the interior that was broken which caused the leak to cause damage to my kitchen ceiling and my wall. I called American Home Shield and I must have called a couple of times but I wasn't able to get through. At one point, I had to wait on hold for over two hours.

When I got through, I spoke to a representative and she listened to what I was saying and took the information. She assessed the problem that I had and they referred some company to me in the area. They said they would eventually contact me but they didn’t. I had to contact them and this was during the Christmas holiday. And for quite some time during the Christmas holiday, I couldn't even turn the water on. If I did, there would be more water running down my wall and possibly more damage. I spoke to a supervisor and he apologized. Finally, this guy comes out and cuts holes in my upstairs bedroom, in the ceiling, and in the kitchen wall. Then, I had to wait another two or three weeks after he did that and repaired the leak for somebody else to come out. I had to call the people they recommended after a long wait.

It has been repaired now although it took several weeks to get it repaired and I'm not pleased with that. As a matter of fact, the first guy that came out had this very bad attitude. He told me that I had to pay so many hundred dollars if my pressure wasn't 70 PSI and it would not be covered under warranty. And if he repaired it and found out that my PSI was over this average, he would cut the pipe again. I've never heard of anything like that so I was taken aback and even called my agent.

Then, the second person that came out and did the repair work wanted to charge me additional money. And he did because he said based on the type of warranty that I had, they don't repair it to a rough finish. So, if it's a hole in the wall that needs to be repainted, they don't do that. He said that I could speak to him but it was actually somebody that the contractors talk to. He didn't want to talk to me at all. It was almost like these people are running some racket and it's terrible. So, I had to pay this guy $70 to paint it and do the finish work.

It's a hassle with them sending somebody out and then once this person comes out, you got to pay them a $70 to $80 charge before they send somebody out. And if there's any work that needs to be done, you got to pay for that. I don't understand what this warranty covers and they tried to explain it to me but I’m paying just like I would if I didn't have a warranty. These people are ripping folks off and it's one of the worst companies I've seen. I've had a very bad experience with American Home Shield and I would not recommend them to anybody that I know or my family. This is not a company to do business with at all.

My furnace kept kicking itself off after a couple of seconds and I couldn’t tell if there was a problem with it or the gasoline. I was getting cold and I needed to get it taken care of. I used American Home Shield's web-based claiming process and said I needed somebody to come work on my furnace. Hours later, I got a call that said who was coming out and that they'd call me and schedule a time, and they did. It was very smooth. They gave a four-hour window and the tech showed up within the first 15 minutes, and it worked out well. He came inside and I told him what was going on. He said he'd fix it and would be out in 15 minutes and he was. It was convenient. There are a lot of companies out there that provide a home warranty-type of service but I have used American Home Shield and they've done a great job.

I have three appliances that I have some problems with and American Home Shield replaced one of them, a washer. After I called they sent me Ramb’s and they helped me with the appliances. It took two weeks after they came to tell me that they have to replace it. But for the other appliances they’ve been fixing since October they still didn’t have the parts on time. I had to wait months until they got the part for my refrigerator.

I’ve been calling different times when they told me they didn’t have the parts until now. So next Tuesday they’re supposed to fix that as well as my microwave and the dryer. It was just a light that wasn’t working in the microwave but the dryer has some parts missing and they told me they have to have all the parts to come and fix it right. The first time when they send the parts is because for some reason the first contractor from Home Shield didn’t have the parts. So they find out those parts are never going to come until they get us somebody else.

I called in and submitted the claim but I had to call after that a lot of times and they always have the same reason -- they don’t have the parts. The last rep that I interacted with was very helpful. But before her it was, “We don’t have the parts,” and the last one tried to do different things and tried to help me. The contractors are very nice people but they have the hindsight too. They couldn’t fix anything if they don’t have the parts so they couldn’t come. They couldn’t do anything for me until they have the parts and it took a long time. It’s been months. You’ll have to wait months to fix the problem. Good thing the refrigerator’s freezing my food and not altogether not working because then I’m going to have a trouble. But I have to turn it on and turn it off to make sure. I cannot put salads or fruits or vegetables in my fridge. Overall I won’t say that they're bad because at least they replaced the washer but with the situation with the refrigerator it was crazy.

I submit claims to AHS over the phone and for the most part, their reps are pleasant. I had somebody that was supposed to come out today, I had to reschedule since it was late, but for the most part, they've been awesome. They called me as soon as I made the appointment and they scheduled it right away. I've had great experiences, and I've had horrible experiences. When our pool pump had gone out, we received the worst service. The pool guy came here three times and he didn't know what he was doing. Moreover, he took our pump back to his facility without telling us so we thought we were robbed. We ended up having to cancel it and getting refunded.

The pool guy brought the pump back and it's still not fixed. When he came, he was smoking. He was very unprofessional. The lady that we were working with was very nice, but she kept on going around. There was a point in time where they couldn't even get in touch with the serviceman that was coming out here. It was a nightmare.

This was the week before Christmas and we had left. Our pool is up on a hill, with the way it is placed, if our pipes flood, it floods into the neighbor's yard. We had to physically go out there, drain all the pumps and remove all the water out of the filters just to avoid that. The last time I spoke with them was two weeks ago when they were supposed to come out here. The guy was scheduled two times in between to come out here and fix it, but he was a no-show. We're still waiting on the check, but AHS is not paying for the repairs on the pool at all.

Earlier, in the middle of summer, our AC went out. When we got American Home Shield, we were told that if there's something wrong and they can't fix it, they'll replace it. However, we had to pay $3500 to replace our own AC unit, even though it was broken. We had always kept up with it, but it was just an old system. AHS is good, but it depends on what appliances need to be repaired. I would recommend them for everyday appliances, not for big appliances, like a pool pump or an HVAC unit.

Interaction with the contractor all happened very quickly. It was a lot easier than I was expecting. The furnace overheated because of the filter. So, I got a new filter and he showed me how to put the filter in. I tried to get the little door open to put the filter but had been unsuccessful at doing that. Somehow, he was able to pop it off with his fingernails, which I thought was a little odd. I watched him do that and that helped. Now, the heating system is totally fine.

We've had good experiences with American Home Shield. When submitting a claim online, it's very easy. Once they get your number and it identifies who you are, it's pretty much a click menu and I submit. I can pay forward at that point as well. Folks then come out, make the fix and then get along to whatever their schedule dictates from there. I've never had any disappointment with AHS and they've come through every time too. It's very convenient to know that if something goes wrong, I can just go to that one spot and AHS can find somebody to come fix the issue as opposed to doing the research and asking people or trying to get on a schedule that may be full already. It's understandable that things may go wrong at times when there's extreme weather condition. The elderly or the needy who has an air conditioner problem would go first. But otherwise, the response has been mostly very prompt.

We've had them out two times as of late and the people that they contracted with have always fixed the problems that we had. The bearing went out in the motor for the pool right before it was about to freeze for a week where I live and somebody came out within a day and did the fix. They saved the pipes and the pool that could have frozen and gone bad from that point forward. The pool is working like a champ.

The technician came out a couple of days after the claim was made. We met on two different occasions and he was very helpful. He explained everything step by step on the issues that I was having. And as he was fixing the issues, he was very informative of prior experiences with the same heating and AC units that he has worked on. He was able to solve my issue in less than an hour. The temperature of our water heater went down on a Thursday and we were not getting any running water. So, I went to AHS website and scheduled a service. Home Depot was assigned. The contractor told me there was no heater problem and they’ll come back in ten days. It was a challenge as I had to fight with them to come over sooner. They gave me a 2-5 window and they showed up right on time at 3. He checked out the temperature and told us the heater didn’t need any troubleshooting. Even the other technician who came in acknowledged that. He raised the temperature and we had it on hot and according to the AO Smith water heater setting, ABCR, very hot. He switched the code to B as increasing the temperature was normal for a five-year-old heater. I told him to go for it and that was all he did. But within 15 hours, the water heater shuts off and the whole valve was broken.

It happened on a Saturday and they were closed on Sunday. I left a message on Sunday but nobody called me Monday. So, I called them again twice and they finally picked up the phone. After arguing with them, they sent the person within a 2-6 window then the guy showed up at 5:30. He came and since it was winter, the cold water increased the temperature of the top and the water started leaking also in the garage. The cold intensified and tightened it. The technician said we need to replace the part. He called AO Smith because the water heater was under warranty. AO Smith looked up the light based on the error code and it was number four. And number four reason for the valve to go bad was due to high temperature. The real reason for the problem was there were sediments in the water heater that should have been removed. The thermostat couldn’t handle it so the whole thing blew up.

The technician should have flushed the sediments out and had the thermostat setting to the same thing. He even told me since it is under warranty, they can get the part but my appointment will be on Thursday or Friday. I told them we needed our water heater and they could buy the part then get the refund from AO Smith. But I went to the store and bought the part myself. The guy came Tuesday at 6-ish when the window should have been 2-5. He flushed the whole system that took time then installed the new valve of the unit I got. It cost about $170. There was a light blinking that the thermostat center is not working and something was wrong. And the technical support people for AO Smith were gone so he couldn't figure out what was wrong. He said that he’ll call AO Smith the next morning, Wednesday and he’ll call me too. He texted that AO Smith said the part I got was bad and we needed a new one.

So, I asked if the contractor will be getting the part and they can go to the refund process. AO Smith said that’s what they’ll do. They gave me a voucher again. I called Mariana a few times but no calls. Then finally, I got a call at noon yesterday that the technician will be out between 2 and 5. The guy shows up again at 5:40 and I was taking time off. But before that, I texted him asking if he got the part. He said, "No, you're going to get the part." Then I said, "The first text you said that you were going to get the part." It was 4:10 already and the shop closes at 5. So, I went ahead and bought a second one for I need the water heater fixed. I went all the way to the store and bought the part. The technician showed up at 5:30 and told me that he’ll start removing it and flush the water heater again. He was wasting water but it had to be done. So, once he opened the front part of the controller and there was something loose.

The guy did not put the temperature center correctly on Tuesday. So, the technician said it wasn’t tight and the part just popped out. It was not easy to take it out and he plugged it in. The water heater started working. The first part was good and it was a human error. He was still fixing the thing until 7-ish. Finally, the water heater came back and it was running yesterday at 5:00. I called AHS to explain the whole thing. The first customer service rep understood everything and asked me to hold so she can get the service customer support. The lady came back saying that I wanted a refund from them and that they don’t give any. I just needed my water heater fixed but I didn’t call for a refund. I told them what happened about the part issues and that the technician was supposed to buy the second part.

Instead of getting engaged, she placed me hold which I eventually hanged up on them for I needed to buy the part. She didn’t listen to me because she told me I was calling for a refund. Apart from that, I also had a shower leak previously and the same agent came in late. The appointment was 9 to 12, Saturday and he showed up at 3:00. He said that the cartridge was bad. We didn’t have any water in the house because our shower was continuously leaking and the handle broke. He left me to buy the part and came back at 6:30. The truck that he had was empty and when he came back, his truck was full. He went shopping and kept me waiting. Then, all our flushes were not working correctly.

Same guys came and just used a screwdriver and we still had the problem. He came back and said that we needed to change the flapper. He got the wrong flapper and cut it with his scissors and installed it. But the water was not stopping and the tank is continuously filling up. I called a tech guy and when he came, I told him that he needs to come with the part and replace it. Then, he showed up with a $10 part because I told him I couldn't buy that too. The shower cartridge was finally fixed right. It was normal for AHS and the contractors they sent didn’t do anything, just the basic stuff and see if that solved all the problem. It looks like an AHS problem guidance to the contractors. Otherwise, they will spend the right stuff and get it fixed. I’m angry with them. My experience with them was all about frustration. I gave up on AHS because they were useless which I explained to them twice. I'm going to start looking for a new company.

It took us a couple of tries to find a company that would come out because I have a condo and not a house. The contractor had to be a specific company that would come and work on heaters at condos. There was a company that was scheduled but then they cancelled because they don't service condos. But within a couple of days, AHS was able to find a company that would. The AHS representatives that I spoke with were up to date on what was happening. I was happy with the process. Once they found the company, the issue was resolved quickly. They just tripped the breaker and it stopped working. They had what they needed with them and fixed it. The heater has been working great.

It was a great experience and I would recommend AHS. I like that there’s a website where it tells you if they have assigned a company to come out with the phone number and what to expect within the time frame they’d contact. It was sometimes hard to reach them over the phone but they have a good up-to-date information online which was super helpful.

I've been with American Home Shield for years now. I’ve had them come out and work on my dishwasher, my microwave and my washing machine. They couldn’t get the parts for my washing machine so they gave me money to buy a new one. It's convenient to call them out. However, there are things they do not cover and it gets frustrating.

I’m having issues with my stove and they don’t cover parts for the stove. Although most of the contractors were good, there were a couple who were not. They would usually just come out for that one thing. If there’s something else wrong and then you didn’t mention it then you’re just SOL. For instance the light on my microwave was out but the door is also wobbly. If I didn’t mention that the door was wobbly or screw had fallen out they would not fix it. But they’re professional.

I’m having them out a second time for that loose door in my microwave tomorrow. Sometimes some things have to be redone. But they come with the parts and there's just a one-time fee. One time they came out three times for a refrigerator. Yet I only had to pay the one-time service call because it was all pertaining to a single issue. They come out and see what parts they need. Then they come out when they get the part to install it.

I recommend American Home Shield. My daughter has it. I recommend them to my friends. I tell them, “Hey, if one of your hot water heater goes or your heater or air conditioner, a big ticket item, even if they didn’t cover everything, at least you get your $500 worth.” But I wish they would hire more people to answer their phones. They have a long wait time. I’ve waited as much as two and a half hours on the phone. So I definitely would say that that’s a big problem.

I had a leak somewhere underneath the flooring between the living room and the guest bedroom in our house. So, I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. I told them that I needed a plumber that was capable of locating a leak. The plumber they sent was a good plumber but he did not have the capability of locating a leak in a slab built house where all the water lines are underneath the concrete. All he did was guess that it was the toilet leaking. I asked him what was he basing his guess on and he told me that if anything in there was leaking, they didn't see any evidence of any of the valves leaking, so it's got to be the commode. He pulled the toilet and from that point to the time he left, all he did was downgrade the plumber who did the work prior to him getting it and just talked about how sloppy the work was.

All that time, I saw no evidence of water leaking from around the base of the toilet. But he went ahead and put a new fitting on the bottom, plugged it in and put a new sealant rerouting it. We didn’t use that rest room that much but he still told us to stay off the toilet for at least 24 hours and let the grout set up. We did but the water kept coming in to the rooms.

I submitted another claim but I knew they will send the same plumber back. I told him that he would not be allowed on my property. If he couldn’t fix the problem then there was no point in AHS sending him again. If they don't have a menu of contractors that they could choose from then they're not a very good company. I called my insurance company and I had told them what the situation was. They sent an adjuster out here and when I asked what I needed to do next, he told me to wait until we hear back from the insurance company. But I couldn't wait any longer because the house was falling apart. The pipes were almost in two pieces, my water bill tripled and my leg heated too because it was coming off the hot water heater.

So, I called a plumbing company that advertised that they have the capability of finding leaks. The plumber came in, got his equipment out and found the main waterline coming in under the living room. It took him about 30 minutes to find where the leak was. He opened up a hole in the sheet rock. It basically had turn to look scaling an old spot. And it turned out to be the hot water line going to the bath tub. It was at a clamp that they had run the pipe through. It moved back and forth and then through it went the hole in. Turned out that latest house was plumbed. Everywhere we looked, there were clamps on the pipe. He told me that once they start leaking, chances are we’d just keep having leaks everywhere. So I paid to have the house re-plumbed completely. It was over $10,000 but my insurance company’s limit on plumbing leaks was $5,000 so I had to pay the other $5,000.

I sent in the $470 that the plumber charged me to find the leak and repair it to an email address that we got customer service in AHS. I would want them to give me back the money that I had to pay for the plumber that actually found and fixed the leak before it completely destroyed my house. But I hadn't heard a word back at all. That's been at least three months ago. There's a very good possibility I will be changing home warranty company shortly.

We had a leaking pipe in our rental property in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The floor had softened as well in the bathroom as the leak had been there for a little while. I was recommended to use American Home Shield from a friend who used and was satisfied with their service. So we contacted American Home Shield through the app as I was in Ireland at that time. It’s a wonderful system. It was extremely user-friendly and easy to put a claim in online. AHS got the issue rectified instantly. They were talking to the insurance company who said if it was to be replaced, it would be because of the water damage.

I spoke to one of the contractors for the DC home and he was very straightforward and honest. He told me that I needed something to bring the code. Then AHS called and went through it with me and told me exactly how much it would be. I didn’t need to meet with the contractor because it was taken care of by AHS. As a landlord, it definitely saved a lot of work. They were very excellent, professional and effective. If I had a question for their contractor, AHS would call the contractor and would clear it up for me straight away and I’m very happy with that.

AHS has a very good reputation. The simplicity of it is what sells them. They cover everything that nobody else would and it’s all under one policy. It’s a very good value for money. We could choose what we needed as it's not just lumped into one fixed package. It’s like having a management company for my house. If I’m away from home, I don’t need to worry if something happens. They could come in and get the job done that's up to standard by insured professionals. I will definitely recommend this company. Thank you AHS for looking after us.

When our hot water tank had stopped working, I used AHS' web interface to submit the claim and it was very simple. It had six questions and a bill you have to pay. I then heard from them within the required 24-48 hours which is really where they say within 24 business hours, but they really mean 24 count hours, unless it’s a weekend. They’re not very clear with the eight fixed hours. 24 business hours mean three days, but that’s not what they mean.

The contractor came out to assess the problem. Unfortunately, my unit was evidently something that they don’t have in stock so, it took a couple of days to order it, a top mount exhaust from a gas line. Oddly, they required that I pay before they came, so I paid my portion versus what AHS paid. They came out, installed the unit and it worked. They did a moderately decent job. On the other hand, my home is brick and they had to reshape an area that went from inside to outside. They could have done a much better job on the inside and how they brought it outside, but it did not change the quality of the resulting use and it was aesthetic.

But in general, AHS has been a difficult company to work with. Years ago, our air conditioner broke. We live in the South and it was hot. It took three and a half months to get my air-conditioner. They said it was not really broken. I paid somebody in my own pocket to come out to test it and they said it was broken. Then, I had the guys come back out and they said it was really broken, but they were too busy to do the work, so they went back to AHS. They then assigned it to a different third-party company. So, I had somebody to come out a fourth time and assess it. They also assessed that it was not really broken. Their definition of broken was, in their perspective, if it would launch when fired on its own and there was some piece of equipment that would help it start. If it was a car, they had to replace a spark plug. They said that they were not authorized to do it on the model that I had because it was too old. To me, the unit was broken.

So, I fought that battle for six weeks with AHS. I had a direct number to call somebody who was extremely disrespectful. No appreciation of me as a customer and his basic answer was they would give me a $1,700 check to do the work myself since I didn't like what they were doing. I told them that the reason I have them was that I couldn't find the people to do the work. Even though 25% of the time their people were great, the 75% were crap, but that was better than nobody. It was a very, very difficult process. After that, I didn’t renew on my next renewal cycle because I was considering going to a different service but eventually, I went back to them.

Also, I also had a leaky faucet. The company that fixed the hot water tank came out and fixed the faucet. The woman who scheduled it was just a flat-out unhappy person. She would call, leave me a voicemail but she spoke so fast. I had to slow down the line and look at the history of the call. I called them back and she'd ask if the call was related to a warranty service. She put me on hold, came back and she asked who I was holding for. I told her I was returning a call and she asked if the call was for the warranty service. She then said that they were too busy to handle service calls, they would call back the next day and hang up. She didn't ask my phone number and who I was.

The air conditioning people were a joke. It was months of no air conditioning. I would call and nobody would answer. The voicemail would say that if the call was about a home warranty, they are too busy to take any claims and I needed to call back AHS and tell them they were not taking new claims. That was the reason why I had a private, direct service situation.

They were offering me to find somebody, but I pay them so I don’t have to do it. I make one claim and I pay one fee. I had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket because they said that the air conditioner was broken but the compressor was not. I’m not allowed by North Carolina law to put an AR14 rated air conditioner. They said that they would give me the worst version because mine was older. The installation would not be done unless I paid $1,400 on top of it. Surely, it was the new adds to the contract, but if the air conditioning comes in two parts and one part is broken, they will have to replace it. The other part couldn't fit and they said that it was not their problem, but that was my contract, not theirs.

There was also a time when my microwave went out. It was a joint microwave and oven. The person I talked to put the request in for AHS and they approved it, but it took forever to get one that would fit. When they finally came to install it, the cabinet wasn’t big enough and they don’t do cabinet changes so they left. I had to get somebody else to adjust the cabinet, and then get them to come back and do the installation. AHS paid for all the cabinet extension and the guys did a fine enough job with the installation.

I’ve been in this house for 11 years. We came to the house for the first year free and I renewed it every year since. But three out of four times when somebody came to my house, they were either hard to get a hold of, delayed or sometimes, rude. AHS should screen and randomly call their subcontractors, and their clients, too, to see how they are treating their customers.

I'm satisfied with what American Home Shield does but there are certain things which are hidden and some things which cause a lot of dissatisfaction. For example, last time I had a leak, the guy came and looked into it. He said the leak was because I have a lot of pressure off of water from the city government. He also said that he couldn't fix it and even American Home Shield will not pay for it until I regulate the pressure. There were no said rules or predefined things which are very clear for any consumer to understand. Since they were not going to fix it, I had to hire somebody outside and get that pressure regulated first.

Then I called city government. They understood everything but said that pressure is good and they didn't see it as an issue. Then, American Home Shield closed the ticket and said that if the leaks happen in the future, they will not fix until I change the pressure. But with the city government saying it’s not an issue, I don't know who to go. At least the city government assured me and gave it to me in writing.

The most frustrating part about American Home Shield is that anytime I want to get in a call with them, there is absolutely no way I can get in touch with the agent. I have to wait at least five to ten minutes, sometimes 15, 20 minutes for the call to get connected. Aside from connecting, sometimes explaining things is also a challenge, like with this issue that took a while. But the reps I’ve spoken with are nice, helpful and very specific. Normally, they take care of all the issues and they really understand what my problem is. Overall, I'm very satisfied. Most of my experiences are awesome. I've already recommended all my friends and colleagues to go with American Home Shield.

Our air conditioner went out. We called American Home Shield and the rep explained what we were going to do. We told her what the issue was then we put the claim in, paid our deductible and she gave us the contact information of the air conditioner company. Then the contractor called and gave us a timeframe. It was supposed to be a 24-hour turn around time, but it was cold that time and my mom was 88, so I asked them to send someone out sooner than the 24-hour standard, and they did.

The service from the tech was excellent. He called us before he was due to come out and advised us of every move. Once he got here, he went out and checked the air conditioner. He came back and told us that he found the issue and he had to get a part. He said he'd be back at a certain time, and he did. Then he installed it and everything has been running properly after the repair. Plus, he gave us his direct contact number in case we had an issue. We’d recommend American Home Shield to anyone. Their rates are great and they are the perfect company to go through if you have an older home and in case something’s broken, you don't want all the expenses to come out of your pocket.

Our tub is physically in great shape but the heater does not work in it and the panels read nothing. I've submitted the claim to American Home Shield about four times now. I've usually had really helpful customer service people but it seems like they're reading off of cards. The first time I made a claim, AHS gave it to somebody but they failed to tell that person. The last time I submitted, AHS was not able to find somebody to repair so they gave us the okay to find somebody to do it. So, we are looking for somebody who is accredited and insured but I haven’t been able to find one.

When I had a drain stoppage, I called American Home Shield to make a claim. The contractor came, diagnosed the problem, said it was a mainline issue and that it wasn’t something that the home warranty would cover. I asked the contractor if I should call American Home Shield and he said that they are going to tell me the same thing so I was frustrated. I didn't even call American Home Shield back. But the technician was great. He was professional, quick to respond and knew what he was talking about. He diagnosed and fixed the problem but I ended up having to pay the contractor directly and pay the $100 service call fee to American Home Shield for a problem that ended up not being covered.

Since the repair, there has been another issue. It stopped up again two weeks later. I called the same contractor and they said that I need to call American Home Shield first. Knowing that they weren't going to cover it, I went ahead and called my own contractor, who ended up charging me about one-third of the cost to fix it one more time. As a warranty purchaser, it would be helpful to understand what to do in the event that the repair turns out not to be covered because I ended up paying four times of what I might have paid on my own because the repair wasn't covered. They should be clear about that and also have it somewhere on their website.

Hello, John. I apologize that you ended up paying several times to have an issue resolved. AHS would definitely need to know what the diagnosis was prior to advising if the issue was covered or not. The technicians know our policies but they should not advise you of coverage prior to you speaking with AHS. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to further discuss.

I’ve used AHS for a couple of times and every time, it’s been a good experience. They fixed my refrigerator a couple of times and the third time, they replaced it, so I was happy with that. When my garbage disposal went out, I called it in. I didn’t know my number so they found it for me. Everything was good. The repairman was on time. I’m an on-time kind of nut, and when you tell me you’re going to be here at a certain time, I expect it. Everybody’s not like that, but he was. I’ve told my sister about AHS and my son just bought a house and I told him he should get it. I’m trying to talk to my mom into getting it, but she’s old school. AHS is good at their work and if it’s in the policy, they will fix it. If they can’t, they will replace it. They don’t make up excuses and whine about it, they go right ahead and do it which I really appreciate. And it doesn’t take them all day if you call them, either the next two days, they’re there.

My garage door opener was not receiving the signal from my transmitter. Before I called Home Shield I kind of worked with it for a little bit because I had to come inside the house and hit the button to open it. But after a while the garage door didn't work so that's when I called Home Shield. They directed me to a website to submit the claim and it was simple.

We scheduled it the following day and then we scheduled the time. The contractors were super friendly and nice. They had a van full of parts but my part wasn’t in the van. They ran out of it. So they had to reschedule after they got the part ordered. I was happy with the provider but I wish it would have been fixed that day. But when it was finally fixed it was one board. They were in and out in probably five minutes.

I'm in the mortgage business and when a homeowner is purchasing property I always tell them my experience. "It's always good to get a warranty in the house. You'll never know what appliances are going to break soon." I also tell them about the plan that I'm in which is $50 a month and there's a $100 copay. And I give them the math on top of that. I say, "Let's say the refrigerator breaks on you. If you're paying $50 a month, that's $600 for the year, even if you pay that for three years and it's just the refrigerator. Get a warranty." And I recommend American Home Shield all the time.

I filed a plumbing claim with American Home Shield, and the contractor came out and they said I didn’t answer the door. However, I was home and I never heard them, so they left. I was here with a friend and had four babies that day. It was loud in my house, so if the contractor knocked on my door at all, I would’ve heard him. If I didn’t hear him, then my dogs go ballistic. I called AHS on that day to see when they were coming because the issue has been for a few days. They told me what happened and that they were going to charge me $100 since they came out and there was no answer.

I called the home office and spoke to someone who said that I can have the contractors come back out and it won’t cost me another $100. Supposedly, that’s on a recording since the person I talked to that day said everything was recorded. I had them look for that recording when I called and talked to them again because they billed me. The first time, they automatically took it out of my account. The second time, they tried to take it out of my account, but they evidently can’t take it out twice without notifying me. So, I still have $100 showing up every month that I owe. I told them what their rep said to me the last time I called and they didn’t believe me. I called and somebody was supposed to pull the recording and check it out but I never heard anything from anybody and that has been three months. Somebody needs to tell them to stop billing me since they already took it out.

Nevertheless, the technician was very pleasant. I recognized his name that it was the same person. I treated him with respect and he was very professional. It’s all working now. Overall, everything has been good except for that issue. I’ve only had people come out about four times though in these years. Right now, I have a broken window and have reported it. It’s a double pane and it's broken only through the first pane, so it’s not inconveniencing me. However, I don’t want to deal with AHS until this other thing is settled.

When we were first getting the American Home Shield account set up, I had a couple of issues. It was almost like my account information didn't exist yet and I needed to reach out to support to ask for help. It got resolved at some point and after I finished getting set up, everything has been great since. I most recently filed two claims at the same time. One was for the furnace and one was for the microwave. The microwave turned off and didn't turn back on and we weren't sure why because the outlet was working fine. But it has been working fine since the repair. And the furnace, we were told that there was something wrong with it by someone else who does furnace stuff, but the guy that came out actually said that we were good.

Submitting the claims online was easy and we got responses within two working days. Both contractors that American Home Shield sent were fantastic. They were both very personable, explained what was going on, and answer any additional questions that I had while I was there. I saved all their information because I was told that if I call to submit a claim next time, I can request for the same company to come back out.

Their customer service rep was great and told me that I'd be contacted by the vendor that’s doing the actual repairs within 24 hours. The contractor called, set up an appointment and came out. The technicians knew exactly what they were talking about, ran through the whole cycle and made sure that that was the problem. They fixed it and everything was perfect. Also, every time I have a problem with my air conditioner or anything, the service people would come right out and fix it. AHS has been doing great, always on time, very professional and easy to work with.
