We had a claim for our circulating hot water system that I submitted to American Home Shield over the phone. The contractor came, knew what he was doing, and went straight to the job. He did excellent service and I was extremely pleased. The repair worked, so we have hot water again. Also, I tried to file a claim for the microwave convection oven that's built in at our house but I was told my contract did not include that. I was not very happy with that. They stretch the word "appliance" to the umpteenth degree and I normally think of an appliance as a free-standing thing. So, I am very nonplussed that a built-in oven is not considered a system and that it is considered as a separate appliance. I'd warn others to get a separate appliance coverage and recommend investigating other companies.

American Home Shield came highly recommended to me and I told other people about them. I found out that my contract ended in January but I missed to call because I had a surgery. I’m going to have to cancel with them because every time I call them, I could never get anybody on the line. I've been trying to call to complain, but it takes me forever to get through. It's hard for me to keep calling from work and when I get home, it's even worse. That needs to be fixed.
Also, when my refrigerator was leaking, the technician stopped the leaking, but the refrigerator has not made ice since. Then another time, my daughter had accidentally knocked over some liquid detergent which went into my dryer. The technician was supposed to clean all that out but then, he just rushed and got out of the house fast. All the liquid stuff was still in the dryer and all over the floor. Later on, I started smelling something strange smell and thought it was coming from the dryer so, I turned it off, put it out, and the accordion tubing that goes from the dryer out the door was cracked up which the technician didn't tell me about.
Also, I had a leak coming through my ceiling upstairs. The technician was supposed to come that morning but then he called me and said that he was busy and that he was going to come in the afternoon. When he came, he said that it would be hard to go up in the ceiling. I told him that he should be going up in there and find out why it was leaking because he was supposed to come in the morning and he chose to come in the afternoon.
So, he did and said that it was not the roof leaking. I told him that it was the air conditioning so he went out there and said that he didn't see anything on the air conditioning. But he found out that the tubing from the air conditioning that was supposed to be going outside was clogged. He unclogged it, but I had to force him to do his job. I'm paying $50 something every month, then I'm paying $100 when they come which is ridiculous and then, I have to make people do their jobs.
Lastly, whenever I wash my clothes, the water backed up in my shower downstairs into my toilet. When I called the city, it wasn’t on their side but on mine. They sent a plumber out here and he was so professional. He put covers on his feet when he came in and went all the way around my house trying to figure out if there was another source that he could go through to see if he needed to clean it out. Then, I showed him the one that the city always used. He did that and he ran that thing about three times. He came inside and ran the washer to make sure everything was clear. That was the best experience I've ever had since I've had the contract.

We had an issue with our water heater, but I haven't fully submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I called them to come for service and they didn't have anybody available in their network that was qualified because I have a tankless water heater and it's connected to our radiant heating. So I had to pick my own person and they came. Then I have to submit the receipt that they gave me to AHS because I was the one that called for the servicing for my water heater. When I called them one time, I waited for an hour and a half to get through. I think there's something going on. Maybe it was during some of the snowstorms on the East Coast. It's so cold that some of the centers had to close. It's still not fully complete, but I would tell others that American Home Shield is good for some basic things but not for anything specialized.

Our most recent claim with AHS was for a condenser that stopped working. We found out that the fan was turning in the opposite direction, so it was pulling air into the unit on versus pulling it out. We had no heat downstairs and it was cold so we worked around it by using more comforters. The contractors came as prepared as they could. They knew exactly what the issue was and what they were talking about. Also, a week before, the motherboard for the dryer went out. The guy was here in five minutes and knew exactly what to order. As soon as he got the part, he came back and was done within five minutes. So, it was amazing that both contractors who came out were very well educated and knowledgeable. The repairs have been spot on as well.
Another great thing is that they got rid of Sears because Sears was horrible as one of their contractors. We had the motherboard go out on the washer and it took a week for them to come out, then another two weeks for him to come out again to find out the serial number which I could have given him over the phone. And then, it took another three weeks for him to replace it. I had called in and complained about that and I'm really grateful that American Home Shield recognized that that was not a good option and had made that change for the better. I'd tell me friends that American Home Shield's dependable and that they stand behind their work.

I filed a claim with AHS for my dryer and the contractor they sent was very knowledgeable and professional. AHS is convenient and worth the trouble and I'd recommend them. The only thing I hate is that they don't do ice makers.

The fan blower on my heat and air unit went out so I filed a claim online. The AHS website is pretty user-friendly. The only issue I have with AHS is them picking and choosing who they send out to the house. I told them before that I've gone and dealt with a lot of people who work on the house and I prefer to have the same people to come out whenever I put a claim in. Unless I call AHS, they don't do that. In this case, it happened that when I put the claim in, they sent a company out that I liked. It was somebody I dealt with plenty of times. If that wasn't the case, I would have called AHS and would have gone through the headache of trying to get them and having them switch the company over.
I would tell the contractors what the problem is, they would come and see the issue then they would send out something to American Home Shield. AHS would then tell me if they can fix it or not. I've had American Home Shield for years now and I don't have too many issues with them. I've been recommending them for a long time, however, some people say they're going to have issues with them.

I had a broken receptacle on a three-way switch and American Home Shield responded by finding a contractor. I was satisfied with the response. The contractor explained the repair efficiently, and he was adequate. It made for ease of operation for senior citizens. We're happy with AHS.

For the most part, my experience with AHS was okay, but somehow, I was charged twice for our service. I guess they finally settled it, because they haven't come back. No one there was able to connect things competently and that troubled me a lot. The first person that came out referred it back to the company that they needed to send out a plumber because of what they thought was wrong, and he said it's no problem and that they do that. I was satisfied with that. But then they sent it back to the same company and tried to charge me for it. When I talked to that company, they said that they already know that's not the issue. The correct company came out and I explained to the contractor. He said I shouldn't be double charged.
It took me forever to get through when I called. I literally put my phone down and waited for two to three hours the first time to get through. When I finally talked to someone, she said I had to be double charged even though they made a mistake. That didn't sound logical to me, so I called the next morning, waited another hour plus. Finally that young lady said I shouldn't be charged and that they're going to send a memo. I get the bill in the mail that I've been charged anyway, so I went on social media and sent a message, and they said it would be corrected. I called them again, and this young man said that he absolutely would send a memo. The memo had been written, but had not been sent. So, fortunately, nothing has come out of my account, and right now, I have not received another notification.
I've never had this issue. I told the representatives that I think it's poor of them to try to charge me and blemish my reputation because I have a spectacular record with American Home Shield. They had sent a collection letter that I needed to pay the $75 because it was past due, and that's when I called again. I guess it was human error on both parts, but if someone is calling and writing that much, it seems like someone could finally connect the dots so I don't get a pink slip in my mail box. And that bothers me. Finally, there was a note in my messenger that they were going to get it straightened out. As of now, I have not received a past due notice, but if I do, I will be contacting American Home Shield again.
So far, the contractors that I had have done their responsibilities. The only one that I was unhappy with was a couple of years ago. But after I called American Home Shield, they explained the policy and I said okay. But what he did was a partial job. I had to get someone else that night because the water that he partially eradicated was still coming out of another drain, and I didn't have time to wait two or three days because that water was spreading all over my basement, so I had to pay another $250 that same evening to get that done.
I don't know if he thought he had gotten everything done. It was coming from my air conditioning that I paid for the extra antifreeze. But since I couldn't pinpoint him as being less than competent, I just let it go, and my son paid for the additional plumber who came out that night as an emergency. We had to pay extra. That was an error I accepted because we didn't know, and I'm assuming the contractor didn't know.
Also, it shouldn't take two or three hours to get a representative. That's absolutely ridiculous. No company should have to have their customers wait that long. I have to sit on the phone and my daughter taught me how to put in speaker so at least I could move. Every time I called, they're going to tell me there's a 30-minute wait then there's an hour wait or there's a 2 hour wait. Someone needs to correct their horrible representatives. They should be taught to leave a memo and give a number for a particular case, so that we don't get to run around and two or three people come out, and therefore, the company wants to charge the customer. That's my biggest complaint. Everyone has time that is important to them, so when you have to sit there and wait, that's absolutely ridiculous.
The people that have come out have been polite and professional. But there are too many errors that are made right now. Everything I've asked for has been corrected, and that's all I can ask for. But the wait period is too long and when following through on a customer's claim, problems could be eradicated if there are reference numbers for those claims.

Every time I try to contact AHS, it's a horrible experience. I put it on speaker phone, 30-45 minutes on hold, and after I'm on there so long, they disconnect me. The representatives are nice but they can only do so much. We used to have two houses and they would debit our account $100 a month. We finally we got rid of one of the houses and we had moved on to something else.
When our air conditioner went out and it was 102 degrees, we couldn't even stay at home. We're told that somebody would contact us within 48-hours and that was reasonable. Their service people contacted us but it was going to be another three days before they could come out. This had happened repeatedly. Last summer or summer before, we had to go stay in a hotel for a week. Also, a lot of their contractors weren't very good. They said they fixed the problem but it wasn't so I had to call back in, go back starting from scratch. It was like we had gone with a problem for two or three weeks before we got it resolved because of the way they did business.
When our furnace that was about 30 years old wasn't working properly, we called it in. I was on hold with American Home Shield and nobody ever picked up. Finally, after 30-45 minutes, my husband said he had the number of the contractor and he called to see what they were going to say. They picked up, we told them the situation and they remembered us. They were familiar with our house and they were kind enough to say they would call American Home Shield for us because they had a backdoor number.
The contractor came out but they couldn't fix the furnace. It was repaired so many times and probably should have been replaced before. But AHS just always put a Band-Aid on everything. I get that they're in business but it finally got to the point when the contractors came out and they said they couldn't do the furnace anymore and we needed new equipment. AHS replaced it with a new one and that has been working great. But it was the contractor that got that issue resolved for us and not American Home Shield.
We're very dissatisfied with AHS. We paid for so many years, $600 a year. We've been here for 17 years and we feel like this might be a really good time to go somewhere else because we got a new furnace out of them at least after paying all those money. I would not recommend them. There was always something going on and they would tell us that this or that would not be covered. To get the service performed, it's so frustrating and they just put us off. Last winter or the winter before, the furnace went out again, the same furnace that they replaced. We have a Macaw parrot and we couldn't just leave the house. I had three pans of water sitting on my stove to heat the house and we all slept in the kitchen. This went on for four-five days. It was crazy.

The washing machine was leaking like crazy every time the machine would run. If you had at least half a load in it, it would just throw water all over the floor. I’ve had a lot of trouble with American Home Shield. Some of their service people just walk all over us. But this was a wonderful experience because they handled it quickly. They sent out someone I never had before, a gentleman from GE directly, the factory service rep. He was so great. He came in and analyzed the problem. He told me what kind of parts I was going to need and everything. He did not have them on the truck and he had to order. He had them ordered and shipped directly to our home, and then he came back out and installed it. Everything's great and the washing machine's working like a top.
However, American Home Shield should defend their customers a little better. When I pay my bill every month and deal with American Home Shield, I would expect a little better service. I’ve got two policies with them, and I’ve been with them for 15 years. There’s never been a problem, but I had a real bitter experience this last fall. They had been running me through Greenway Home Services up at Memphis for a long time. Greenway did a pretty good job, then they got real sloppy and they got where they were sending out people who were rude.
I had an air-conditioning problem, and they sent out a young man out. He was real haughty and smart alecky. He told us that he couldn’t fix it, he had to order parts and all that kind of stuff, and he went ahead and left. And then he never showed back up and never called anything for several days. So, I called Greenway and I said, “When is your guy going to come back out and take care of this?” They said, “He’s not coming back. We cancelled you off our service call.” I said, “What are you talking about?” They said, “Well, when he went to get back on the truck, somebody from across the street made a racial slur to him,” which I know was a lie. I went and checked with all the neighbors and everything. They said that their guy just spoke to him and the technician from Greenway turned around and walked off. I didn’t appreciate the fact that my family and my neighbors were allowed to be talked about like that when there was nothing to it.
And so, now we can’t even use Greenway because they won’t service us. We never had a chance to talk to anybody. If we actually did that, why didn’t someone from Greenway call me and say, “Sir, we’d like to talk to you and find out what happened here.” But I wouldn’t let them down in my house if they came now because of the way we were treated. We’re still with American Home Shield, and we will be. I just think American Home Shield should have gotten involved in that. They should have said, “Fine. Then do not go back.” I had already paid the deposit, and I never got it back. I had to start all over with American Home Shield and pay a new deposit. And they sent somebody else to fix the problem. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield. They do a good job.

I had ceiling fans that were malfunctioning. Along with the fans were lights in them that would dim and go brighter. The motor apparently went out on the one. I really wasn't looking to replace it because I really like it. But apparently it needs to be replaced. The light fixture in the master bathroom has new LED lights that we had put in it recently. The lights would go on and off, on and off like there's a short in the wiring. So that's what prompted us to really call American Home Shield and ask first.
So the wire nuts came out. My husband said the contractor re-wired a few things not underneath the fixture, but with the switch and did that. I just got back from a conference and I saw in my office mailbox here some checks from ServiceMaster to help replace the cost of the light fixtures, which I'm hoping is enough, because that also does include the installation through wire nuts and I'm not sure how much they will charge.
Initially they were going to give me $175 towards the light fixtures and I'm sure they were not aware that they were three speed fans, reversible, and that the lights were nice light fixtures to begin with. Submitting a claim is never too easy. Number one, getting through to them or just not being on hold for a long time. I try to do it online. Sometimes their options aren't quite the match with what needs to be done.
I spoke with them about the quality of the light fixtures, that they were not builder grade-- except for the bathroom one. It was nice enough but the other two were not. They were more expensive. One of them actually has alabaster stone on it. Because the other dining room light fixture I bought in is one that I bought through a lighting store and that we moved from our other house so it's also alabaster stone, which I'm not replacing. I don't need it replaced. That was like a thousand dollars. I had upgraded my light fixtures on my own when I have the house-- when it was under construction.
My husband actually was there and he had nothing but great things to say about the contractor who came out for that. And that's why we're going to call them back for when they install the fans. I have to go buy the most stark looking and I'm having a hard time finding what I want, which is why I didn't want it replaced, I just want it to work.
I'm a realtor so our company wants us to ask for people to supply American Home Shield on all the transactions, which sometimes I actually prefer their service from other companies a little bit better. I kind of have mixed feelings about them. I had another call last year when I had a leak for my shower. When I was having my house appraised, we looked up at the ceiling light by the smoke alarm in entry and noticed that it doesn't look quite right. So after the appraiser left, I got on a chair and touched it and then I realized it was moisture damage.
So then I called. And because when the house was built, they brought the master bathroom shower drain-- they kind of notched it into a truss and then put it through the truss. And the truss was holding up the shower and the soaking tub. And the two plumbers that came out from American Home Shield wanted us to cut the truss and then American Home Shield said, "We'll pay for the repair." But they warranty the house if it fails or falls during the repair by cutting up the truss. And they're very clear on that that they would not cover that. So they weren't even willing to post up to help hold the other structural part of the truss. So as a result I didn't have it repaired.
I only haven't used that shower since March of last year. We’ve just been using another shower. And I've just been trying to save my money. Because I figured out I just have to pull that out and do it from within because someone said, if you can put that shower strainer in from the inside, you just-- but to do that, I have to pull the whole fiberglass shower tub out and then have it fixed and then we'll have to re-tile. So I asked them if they would consider that at all to fix it and they wouldn't do it.

When you have American Home Shield, you got a fallback. You don't have to worry about shutting down. You have peace of mind too. Recently, I had submitted a claim that had something to do with my plumbing. It was handled expertly and was resolved within five days. There was a small hiccup though in the beginning. For some reason, my claim got canceled on the vendor’s end. I had to call up again and go through the same process. It was okay, still. However, there's a long wait time over the phone. I had to wait almost 10 minutes, always. Other than that, the contractor was prompt and they fixed it the same day.

I had two different service calls submitted to American Home Shield. One was for a hot water heater, and the other one was for the furnace. It was one of those situations where the technician had to fix one thing and then come back and do a follow-up to that same issue, and then, as a third follow-up, we had discovered that the thermal coupler for the pilot light needed to be replaced. That was how it progressed. But it was done well. The first two times it was the same technician but the third time it was different because the initial tech was not available at that time.
Since the repair, we haven't had any issues. I’ve been with AHS for many, many years, and this is really the first occasion in the number of years that we’ve had to actually request for service and it went very well. They were very timely in response. They were also on time. The new tracking system where they text that they’re on their way and see what the progress is on a map is not very timely though. There is a delay. I received a text, and within 10 minutes, the contractor was ringing the bell. But it didn’t cause me any problems. It worked out fine. We’ve had the warranty for 20 years, and it’s a hefty premium on a yearly basis until you have a problem, and then it seems to pay for itself.

Everybody on the phone at American Home Shield has been incredible and really nice. I had a plumbing problem where the sink was clogged and it turned out it has been clogged for over a week. The first plumber who came out didn’t have the right equipment and he came all the way from Minneapolis to Silver Spring, which is an hour drive plus rush hour. He was a real nice guy and he made the problem sound something major but he but he didn’t fix the problem.
American Home Shield took a while to send the second plumber out because they have to send something over to their main office. There are two different places in which one only deals with the people who answer the phone and then they have to send them over to corporate to get them to okay another contractor to come out for the service to be done. So, All Clear Plumbing came out and they're excellent. The first plumber told me he would have to cut the pipes and replace them, but that wasn’t the case. I got the wrong information from him because the second plumber fixed everything and everything's perfect. All Clear Plumbing have real nice guys and they know what they're doing, so I'm real happy about that.
American Home Shiled should speed up the communications to speed up the process of the claim. I had to initiate all the calls when I had a problem and that's a major thing with me. Once, I talked with somebody who had been extremely helpful and that was really late at night. Then when we had a snow ice thing for a few days, I called and the wait time on the phone was over an hour so I hang up. Another time, I waited over an hour to get through and it was late at night but I got through quicker. Still, I'd recommend American Home Shield and I've told friends I have their warranty since I bought the house.

The water heater in the house that we bought last year had started being inconsistent in its heating of the water. Sometimes we'd turn the water on, and it wasn't very warm at all. I made two initial calls to American Home Shield. The first one, they required $75 upfront payment for the plumber to come out. That's part of what you pay upfront, and I could have done that with the credit card over the phone immediately. But I wanted to think about it a little bit. Then, I called them back a day later and I was ready to pay the money. They set up the appointment right away and I got a text telling me who the plumber was and that I needed to set up an appointment with them. I did that, and everything went very smoothly.
The contractors sent by American Home Shield were fine as well. We have a great number of Hispanic workers out here. One of them did not speak English, but that was all right and we got by. The other fellow spoke enough English that we could do it, and they did the work efficiently. It's been working beautifully since then, the way hot water is supposed to be.
I've had these policies in the past and I've owned other homes, but warranty companies seemed to find every way they could to get out of paying for whatever it was I needed. This didn't happen with American Home Shield. I was very impressed by how they dealt with me. They weren't trying to get around anything or get around paying for anything. They handled it by the book, and they were very nice. They were very clear about what they were going to pay for. They got back to me on their own and said, "We overestimated the portion that you have to pay. There are a couple more things that are covered after we get a review." That was totally surprising and pleasing. It's the best experience I've had with any kind of home warranty, and I would recommend them without hesitation.

I’ve called American Home Shield too much since the last couple of months. The last one was for a gas leak. The contractor was good. He was very friendly and he was answering questions. I followed him downstairs to check the gas, but we found no active gas leak. But one thing I wasn’t happy with about the conversation I had with the American Home Shield rep was she said that I owed money. I told her that I had a previous service call and they came out. I also told her if I owed money then they would have told me I owed them. I had a customer receipt number that it was paid. I’ve been paying my bill pay for years. She wouldn’t let me get that service until I paid. So, in order for them to come out and check the gas which was serious situation, I paid again.
Also, the hold to get and talk to someone is long. I’m not a computer person so I don’t go online to file claims. I’m a telephone person and was on hold for almost an hour. I had to put on the phone on speakers. But I’ve never had any problems calling other than if I'm not home and the money. I suggest that others get American Home Shield.

AHS is a good insurance company. Having the home warranty is very important to me and with them, normally everything gets repaired or fixed. When the garbage disposal was not working, I submitted a claim online and their website was easy to use. The first technician came out a day or two later but he didn’t fix the problem. He put a part in and stated that it was just a cosmetic issue. But the garbage disposal was still not working and was making a lot of noise. When we complained, he told us that he couldn’t find anything in there and that it was just a lot of noise. Then his company told us that they'd call my insurance company.
I called AHS to let them know what happened and I was on hold for over an hour on two different occasions. That was upsetting. When I got to talk to their reps, they said that the tech filed a report that I wanted a new garbage disposal. I told them that I didn't say that. I just told him that the garbage disposal wasn't working and was making a lot of noise. AHS then told me that I had 30 days to still work on it but they could send someone else out here. So, someone else came out and he fixed the problem. He was quick and he did a good job. He said that the garbage disposal was broken and it wasn't going to work. So, he put a new one in there. Everything was fixed within 30 minutes and so far, the new garbage disposal's performance has been good.

Our freezer stopped working so I went ahead and submitted a work order online. I submitted it on a Sunday and the contractor contacted me at the end of the day on Monday. They told me that they weren’t going to be able to service it until Thursday afternoon. The window was noon to 2:00 but I was going out of town on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 so it was iffy whether I would be able to be there or not.
I submitted another one and Mister Appliance accepted that but they said that they weren’t going to be able to come out until the following Monday so I contacted American Home Shield and told them about the issues. They said technicians have a 48-hour turnaround time but none of those were within the 48-hour guaranteed window. The lady that I spoke with said they would try to reassign it and they would contact the party to find somebody that can be out here before Thursday. She turned it over to dispatch and said I should hear from dispatch later that day. But I never heard anything from dispatch. I went in and cancelled my open order because I knew I was going to be gone.
I tried to submit a request and see if it would go to someone else besides Mr. Appliance and the original one but I kept getting them. I’d submit it, cancel it then submit it again, trying to get somebody else but no one else popped up. I told my wife we were not going to be able to get the freezer fixed until I get back then I went ahead and submitted an order. It came back to Mr. Appliance but for some reason, it didn’t get through to them. I was gone Thursday through Tuesday evening and when I got back on Wednesday, I went ahead and called Mr. Appliance but they said they didn’t have the work order.
I called American Home Shield and the person I spoke with resubmitted the work order. Mr. Appliance got it and called me on Wednesday and scheduled the appointment. They gave me a window from 10:00 to 12:00 and the technician came right before 12:00. He was very nice and he seemed good. He came in, took it apart, diagnosed the problem, saw what it was and then put together a work order. He said that he was going to bring it back and turn it in at Mr. Appliance, that they would reach out to American Home Shield and that I should be hearing something from them soon. For whatever reason, this claim took a substantial amount of time but the appliance is a sub-zero refrigerator so it’s a high-end one and perhaps there’s a limited number of people that are qualified to do that type of repair. But normally, the people are responsive on the time and they stay within that window.
Jerry,
Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your overall customer experience. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist. Thanks!

Our washing machine was agitating incorrectly and the water wouldn't fill up correctly. When I called American Home Shield, I got a recording and I just went through the prompts. I told it what it wanted and it said I would be receiving a call within the next 48 hours from the company who was going to fix it. And the company called back and made an appointment and came out within that week. They replaced the one piece that was not working and now, our washing machine works fine. The guys who came were very nice people.
Every contractor that American Home Shield had sent out to us had been fine. And if there's been an issue with something that they've repaired, they came right back. It happened with our air conditioner last year and they came right back and fixed it. We've had AHS for 10 years and we've had nothing but good business relations with them.

I've been having a problem with my refrigerator since last July. It doesn’t cool and it doesn’t make ice. My daughter initially submitted the claim with AHS on the internet. She filled up the form with credit card information and they charged me $75. As soon as I called back for a recall, they wanted the credit card number again. So I had to call them on the phone about it and I had to sit and wait for an hour until somebody picked up.
The contractor, Accord Appliance, has been coming back and forth to work on my refrigerator since last year. I'd wait for new parts then they'd put them in it. But when the technician leaves, after an hour, the light would start flashing on the front of the refrigerator again and it would stop cooling. I have bottles of water in the refrigerator for testing and they are not getting cold. What good is having a refrigerator if it doesn’t work sitting in my kitchen. I've also lost at least $300 worth of meat and milk because of this issue. I went away for Christmas and New Year and I thought it was fixed. But when I came back, my house stunk of rotten meat and I didn’t get a reimbursement for that. I told American Home Shield that I'm on a fixed income and I can't afford to keep losing meat.
Now, I keep the meat and milk in the garage refrigerator and I have to run back and forth to the garage to get them. This is a huge house and that's a long way. I have to go upstairs, walk in my hallway, go into the garage, then go upstairs and all the way to the end of the garage running with food all the time. It is very frustrating and I'm tired of cleaning up my refrigerator. I've been waiting for eight months to get it fixed and it has been a terrible experience. The technician told me that it cannot be fixed. So he's wasting his time and my time on it, and he doesn’t even get paid for coming out for a recall. But he's coming out again today to try to fix it.
I always recommend AHS because the service is a good thing to have if you're single and I'm a single senior citizen. They came on many occasions and fixed things, but the companies that they work with were very slow in getting things done. I waited a year for them to fix my microwave but they couldn't fix it and they finally replaced it. I also can't afford to go with another company because they want the money upfront where American Home Shield takes it out of my checking account every month.

My most recent claim with AHS was for a water line to my commode and things went really well. I called it in by phone because I don’t like going on the computer. The rep was very prompt and was a lot of help. The plumber was really nice and did a really good job as well. Since the repair, the water line's been doing good. I would tell friends that American Home Shield is a good company.

My dryer stopped working so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I tried to get to them online but it took forever. I tried to get help through the help desk but they can't help me so I called instead and that was perfectly fine. They set it up and then I got a call back from the subcontractor. The tech happened to be in the area doing some other work and he said that he could stop by. It was about within a couple of hours after I called American Home Shield and the tech came right away and fixed it. He was very professional. He knew what it was and he had it in the truck and he fixed it. He was in and out within 20 minutes. It was the fastest service I've had and the best experience I've ever had. I had my laundry backed up and I couldn't dry it so once my dryer was fixed, I put in my laundry and it worked perfectly.
I would recommend American Home Shield because when something happens, it's an easy thing to call. The Sears Appliance cost so much for each appliance and American Home warranty beats that and it covers the whole system and the house so we switched from Sears to them. I also liked their professionalism. I thought that paying through American Home Shield worked faster than having to wait for the subcontractor to pay. That worked perfectly because that cuts up a lot of having confusion. Also, the internet system that they use to notify their subcontractors was terrific because they saw that one happened to be in the area and he responded immediately. It was a phenomenal experience and I couldn't wait to tell somebody about it.

The toilet was running all the time or it wouldn't flush at all. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and on the phone. I spoke with their rep and the transaction was fine. The tech replaced part of the things in the toilet but he didn't replace all of them. It won't flush and started hanging up so the tech came back today. He figured out that what was wrong with the toilet tank was the length of the chain was too short.
As far as the shower is concerned, the tech said that the only thing I can do is to keep plunging it. I can't snake it because it's clear out to the street. He said that the problem might be the trap pipe underneath the shower and it's going to be about $4,000 to go in and try to straighten that up. I asked why it hasn’t been done. That’s the thing I don’t get. At first, we use Drano every time the shower backs up into the shower stall for a whole while and the tech said that the problem with Drano is that it builds up in the trap and gets like concrete. He said that there’s nothing else I can do for it. We can see water going through out there but it’s going to back up and I’m going to have to take the plunger every time it happens.

We’ve had American Shield since we lived here and I usually call to submit a claim. My most recent experience with them was wonderful. The tech came out on a Sunday morning and he was very polite and very efficient. He took care of my water heater and by the time we got home from church we had hot water. Last summer the same thing happened and they came and replaced something in the hot water tank. It is already 19 years old and I thought that the tech would replace it this time but he didn't. Nevertheless, I would tell a friend to go ahead and get them.

When I called AHS to submit a claim, my call got straight through. I told them what the problem was and they gave me the number of the contractor. They said that the contractor would call me but he didn’t call me by the next day so I called him. The outlet wasn’t working. The contractor who came out was nice and looked at my electric lines in my bathrooms. He checked up the switches and told me they were hooked up to the switch that was outside the house that had the automatic shut off. He also told me where the shut off was and why the switches weren’t working. This was the first time I have ever used AHS and it was pretty simple.

AHS is convenient to have. There had been times where my heat went out. So I called the emergency number and they had somebody out here the next day. I can’t imagine having a house without a home warranty and AHS has been fantastic. There are things that they can get better on, but for the most part, I enjoyed my experience with them. I submitted a claim with them online for a washer that messed up. Their website was good, however, the status updates could do some improvements. After I filed the claim and I was given a company that was going to contact me, the contractor came out and did the work. But when the tech couldn’t fix the issue, he said that AHS would reach out to me. But nothing on the website said pending call, so I didn’t know what was going on.
Then apparently, AHS reached out to me and I have missed that call. I was in a limbo for a couple weeks before I called them and tried to figure out what was going on. Then I was on hold for a long time so I didn’t get a chance to talk to them for them to tell me about their good process. In every other situation I've had before, the person came out and fixed the problem so I've never had to go back to the website. The contractor who came for the washer was a nice guy but the machine is still broken. When it spins really hard, there's a piece in the back that's loose, rocks around, and hits the sides of the washer. Right now, I'm using it to the point where it seems dangerous. Then I turn it off and throw the clothes in the dryer. It’s a bit of a hassle but I'm rocking it until the wheels fall off.
AHS offered to get us a new one but the hard part is that we got a royal blue matching Samsung set and all the replacements don’t match. They have options on there but the model that we have is old. AHS said that I could go and buy one so, I'll try to go back to the Home Depot where I bought it from. If they don't have that then I will look around. The options AHS had for me were almost going with a GE even though I have a Samsung. The few that were colored or close to what I have had a steep premium for AHS and I realized that they don’t like to pay off. They just want to get it replaced.
In general, I’m contented with the options that AHS gave me. When I got insurance to fix things, I thought that when they couldn’t fix something, they were going to say that I paid a $100 fee to get somebody to come out so they would give my money back and I was on my own. But I was very pleasantly surprised that they offered me $605 for the replacement and that they offered to replace my washer. That was a good bonus.

When I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, their representative was great. I've spoken to her more than once and she's lovely and always gracious. Also, I've had no issues with anyone that’s come out. On this last call about my AC, they went to a rental property and my tenants managed that. They told me everything was great, it was fixed very quickly and everything’s fine now. My only hesitation with American Home Shield is that the turnaround time is a bit long. I’ve had the service for a while and I've learned that if it’s a real urgency, I make sure to call and talk to somebody because then, I’m more likely to get a response that’s timely. I don’t rely on an online work request since it's automated and it doesn’t necessarily seem to take that into account.

I always submit a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the interactions with their reps were great. The only thing I complain about is their hold time, which is long. Sometimes it takes a half hour or 45 minutes. I had a leak in the dishwasher and the contractor that came out was MasterTech. They came out before with AHS and they were fantastic. They were professional, they went the extra mile. They were very helpful. The dishwasher is working wonderfully since the repair. AHS has always been great. We have a very large house and when we have people over, they would say that we've got a ton of maintenance. But we say that it's not since we have AHS. Everyone can have a home warranty, so that's great. If my friends would ask me about AHS, I would tell them that they should have gotten it last year.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my oven around 10 days ago and they had some people come out here. The contractor looked at it, and they said they had to go back to order parts, but I haven’t heard anything else. So it’s not fixed. And when my air conditioner was leaking in the ceiling in the attic, A1 Air Conditioning came in and repaired the damage but they didn’t fix the cause. Subsequently, it continued doing it. Those are not really typical when I get something repaired with AHS but I’ve got a gripe with them. They sent a painting company, who came three times, to fix my ceiling and one the same thing three times. It cost me right out $1000 every time they’d come out here. And I called them and said “Hey, same thing, constantly? Can’t you give me a little bit of help?” They said they’ll help me. I hear from them not four months later saying “You still need help?” I said “No, I don’t need help. I had a hole in my ceiling. I had it fixed.”
I was not really happy. And I’ve considered finding somebody else, but I don’t know who else to find. And I called American Home Shield and didn’t get any help from them. They just blew me off. They took the claim and sent somebody out here, but after that, they’re done, all they want is my money. We’ve been with them since we bought the house 20 years ago and we paid them like clockwork. And in the last two years apparently something changed and we’ve had these types of problems. They’re good about sending people out, and really good about taking the money. Anyone interested should try to find somebody else.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We told the rep that we had a problem and the tech came out. He was very good, very professional and very helpful. We're elderly seniors and he was very compassionate.
He had to order a new faucet and it took a little bit longer than usual so I called them and they said it was being ordered and it will get here a certain time and it did. They came out and it took about four hours to install it and a total of about 10 days overall to have our sink repaired. We had a special kind of faucet and it works perfectly now. I've also used them before. They came out and fixed my garage door opener on a Sunday. We couldn't be happier and I'll keep them because I need them. And they have been the best one I've used because I've had other companies and I was not satisfied with them.

My condensing unit was really old. We called American Home Shield and they sent guys from Troy Heating and Air here. They checked the unit out and determined that it was low on Freon and that it had a leak. They figured out where it was leaking and fixed that first then they charged it up, which was the right way to do it. The unit ran for about four days but while we were gone, it tripped the 60-amp breaker for the condensing unit. When I got home and it wasn’t heating, I went out and discovered that the breaker was tripped. So I reset it and turned it on, and the breaker popped immediately.
At that point, I knew that there was something wrong with the compressor so I called Troy Heating and Air again. They came back and checked it again. After they replaced a couple of items, they determined that the compressor was locked up which means it was no good. And being that the unit was so old, it wouldn’t have been wise to just replace the compressor so they put in the paperwork to replace the whole unit. Troy Heating and Air did a really excellent job. They did everything the proper way and tried to get the old unit working but it was too far gone. And American Home Shield just came right through and did everything. We were very pleased with the way everything went.
In fact, our insurance was running out and we were not sure if we wanted to carry it through again, especially if we had a bad experience. But since everything went so well, we decided that we were going to keep AHS. We renewed it for another year and I have been recommending American Home Shield to people who don’t have the insurance on their appliances. I tell them about our positive experience and how easy it is to talk to the people whenever we call in.

The water in my water tank caused it to bust and it caused the valve to loosen the plumbing. The water flooded all three levels of my home. I called AHS and their claims reps were very nice considering what I have been through. It was devastating because of the fact that I live by myself and didn't have a lot of support. But they made me feel really comfortable even when I kind of broke down in front of that representative. He was still really patient. Also, the contractors have been very patient in helping me to walk through it. The only thing is that every time I was thinking that they were done, they were like, "No. Not yet." It was a couple of days that I was told I was going to be back in the house and I wasn't. I was out of my home for three weeks. But that was just a part of it and instead of being patient, I was just really wanting to get back and not staying at the hotel. It's 100% valuable having a home warranty.

American Home Shield is doing a phenomenal job. They should keep it up and keep the communication lines open. It was extremely easy to submit the claim online and they contacted me in a reasonable amount of time. The fan wasn't blowing in my overhead exhaust range. It has been in there for years and it turned out that it was clogged with grease so the motor needed to be replaced. In addition, the springs of the filters below the fan were broken so the filters were falling out. So, a gentleman came to investigate and then ordered the parts needed.
Although it wasn't anything critical, there was a delay in getting the parts. The gentleman then came back to install the replacement parts once they arrived. He was very pleasant and gave great customer service. He explained exactly what he was doing and set realistic expectations. The issue was fixed right the first time. I would definitely encourage others to take advantage of American Home Shield's services. I’ve had their services during the late 90s and back then, I wouldn’t have referred them to my worst enemy. We had a problem with our hot water heater so we had no hot water in the house. I filed the claim at AHS online and it's usually much easier than trying to get through by phone. If you speak Spanish and you go through that, they're much quicker to answer. But otherwise, you could be on the phone half an hour waiting to talk to somebody. American Home Shield gives a lot of leeway to the sub-companies they use, and they can be delayed in getting things. Also, the contractors are very slow about when someone comes out to your house and they tell what they find. They should tell American Home Shield within 24 hours, and if they don't, it's very hard to get American Home Shield to push them. That can be frustrating 'cause if you're dealing with something, you want to get it fixed.
We had a problem with a very rude and dishonest gas plumber. I emailed somebody higher up at AHS, and she very quickly called me back. I told her I got the problem fixed by somebody else 'cause I I wanted to do it but I wouldn't deal with the rude plumber. She told me to send her the invoice and they would see what they would do about covering some or all the cost, depending on what it cost. Even though the interaction that we had with the plumber was so negative, AHS was very good about trying to make it right. I haven't turned the invoice in 'cause I haven't gotten it yet, but they were very quick about calling and trying to fix the problem. Once they cover you, they're very good at working with you to get things done.

They were professional.
However, I am going to cancel AHS in the near future because I still pay almost $4,400 for the bottom floor from my own pocket, as well as $3,300 for the top floor. This is the second time it happened. According to the air conditioner, they said it would be more. We got $1,500 credit. But it's definitely not a replacement where I don't have to pay anything. I have another claim for the toilet. It's leaking and they come out next week. I have to see how that goes, but I don't think it is worth it. If they fix it for free, that would be nice. We're still having a little issue with the repair. About twice a day, we’re still getting a running noise out of it and we're in the process of setting up another appointment for the company to come back out to re-inspect and see if there’s anything to be done about it.
But the contractor was amazing. He fixed part of it but he also pointed out another issue with it. Somebody had tiled the bathroom and they did not have a neck that is raised to meet the new tiles. The toilet is secure but eventually, it's going to damage the neck. I also understand sometimes our stuff is not covered and I don't have a problem with that as long as they explain to me like the lady calling me and explaining what was going on. I understood completely that the issue we were having is a builder issue. It's not a failed part issue.
I submitted the claim online originally but I'm not impressed with the website. I’m old school and I want to talk to a person, not a machine. But when I call, I've got to jump through hoops before I can talk to a person. Also, way back in the beginning when we had an AC repair, I wasn’t impressed with the contractors that came out and when they had to come back out the following year, I requested another one. Other than the dealing with the AC, everybody I got to work with was very pleasant. I realized they have a protocol and the parameters they work within. But they’ve done very well. American Home Shield is easy to work with and I’ve had relatively good experience with them.

I filed the second claim online, which was a little easier than calling in because it’s hard to get a hold of someone from AHS. They should put more operators on the phone when we need to talk to them.
The contractor AHS sent went ahead and drained the water heater and refilled it. He didn't find any problems with the heater but I haven’t seen the problem since then, so it was taken care of. The same gentleman was able to take care of both the claims. He was very nice and was able to show up within an hour of me calling them, so that was incredible. In the beginning of December, I called American Home Shield for a claim on my washing machine. The water came over in the back where the tube goes down in the wall out to the sewer. They came over there and there was a little water on the floor and outside. My washing machine is on the outside wall and there was some water that came through something on the cement outside. So, I called and told them the problem. They sent a man and he came and blew out the main drain line. He said that it was perfectly clear and that wasn't the problem. I just paid and he went off. He said he'd report it which he did and they called back.
They sent another man who said it didn't have anything to do with the drains. It was this board in the front where you push the buttons to make it do what you wanted to do. He fixed that and it was like a new machine! Everything worked and it was great. Then, last weekend, it stopped working with clothes in the machine and we couldn't get the door open. I called them but they couldn't get anybody here until Friday. The man came and he said it was not the drain. It was the pump and the drain tube was clogged. So, we were back to that. I had smelly clothes in the washing machine and they smelled horrible when he got it open. He wasn't able to clear the clog out of the tubes that come out of the back of the machine and goes in the wall. But there was the clog in something else that he cleared out. And I'm waiting for them to call me back to set up the fourth man to come.
Also, a year ago, I bought an oven through them and it wasn't coming. I tried to get a hold of them and they delivered a very nice oven finally but I didn't know I paid for it. And their phone is a problem to me. I wish they would be easier to get through to on the phone. You continuously get that they're busy on another line. You hold and it never comes off.
I like to call them in when I submit claims but if that's not possible, I do them on my iPhone on the set-up that they have for that. I'm older and not swift with computers but I can navigate the iPhone a little. But I'm having a problem now that there's no little button to push on my iPhone to clear up. So, they need to improve their telephone approach. Up until now, I have had nothing but good things to say about American Home Shield. It has worked very well and I'm very pleased with everybody they sent. They've always sent very nice people that have done their job. I'm very satisfied with them.

They were asking questions about our circumstances and what we were dealing with but we're not the expert. All we knew was what our problem was. The person who's administering customer service should be clear but also have a tone that is professional at all times. I didn't feel like that on the person who worked on the heating component. They needed to be reminded of that and that's when they straightened up.
Also, I had another claim and they were supposed to put in an order to come back out and finish something but I haven't heard from them since and it's been about three weeks. The representative was fairly nice but I'm at odds as to why they haven't responded back. Still, American Home Shield is a great company. I've been with them for over 13 years and I'd recommend AHS to a friend.

I've had a washer issue and American Home Shield's contractor, Ramb's Appliances, has been working to try to figure out what the issue is. And it has been an ongoing claim since September. And it has been an inconvenience but we've worked around it. I did my own testing with them and we're waiting for new parts to be put in. The hurricane delayed getting parts for a while, too. But they've been persistent trying to work through the problem. They've been replacing different parts, and they haven't been able to figure it out but it's working toward a resolution. I've been submitting claims online with American Home Shield. A lot of times the phone waiting period is way too long. But every time we've had any issues, the people they've sent out have been courteous and helpful. And it's definitely worth the money to sign up with American Home Shield.

We called in two things to AHS recently. When the tech came to our home, he unscrewed the dishwasher to repair it. He threw the screws on the counter and in some way, the screws fell into the garbage disposal, which blocked and locked it up. I called to make him aware of it and he told me to call American Home Shield because he wasn’t going to cover it.
I called American Home Shield and spoke with the customer service agent. I explained to her that I shouldn’t have to pay because the tech did not secure the screws. One can’t just go laying screws around, especially with the sink being close to the dishwasher. She assured me that I was not going to be charged specifically because the garbage disposal was still under the 30-day warranty. However, when DrainGo got to my home they said that they don’t cover when metal is in the garbage disposal.
American Home Shield drafted $75 out of my account without authorization. I called the next day and I asked the customer service rep if the previous phone call was recorded as that was the simple fix since she would be able to hear what the last person told me. She said "Yes." She applied for the credit and stated that it will take about three days before it shows up in my account. I still need to check and see if it has actually been credited to my account.
They also never called me or my husband to let us know that they were going to replace the stove. The technician who fixed the dishwasher, in some way, knew about the stove being replaced. He called and said that American Home Shield had decided to replace the stove. I called the person I spoke with and they confirmed that the stove was going to be replaced, but I needed some documentation for it so that we can start the process of getting the ball rolling to have it replaced.
When I called back, I said, “I have a stove that you guys are going to replace, and I’m going to move on quickly.” They were also going to replace a refrigerator, but we have not done so yet. I asked them about the refrigerator and she said that she did not have any documentation about the replacement of the refrigerator. I don’t understand why things are not consistent. If something is charted or recorded or documented, then everybody should be able to see the same thing. When I call, regardless who I speak with or how many times I call, there should be some consistency across the board in regards to communication with the account.
I’ve been with them for a long time, and I have thought about canceling my policy, but overall, American Home Shield has been good to us. I hear a lot of horror stories, but I reply that we didn’t experience that. I would like AHS to keep things the way they are, but they need to iron a few things out. We’ve had things break down and in every instance, whether we’ve had to call back several times or not, they have taken care of the issue. There may have been problems with the service providers, but I can’t fault American Home Shield for that. They could, however, vet the people that they use a little bit more, because ultimately if I call American Home Shield I’m going to go with the person that they recommend.
AHS highly recommends one person or company. I know they highly recommend Greenway. But I had a guy from Greenway come over, and he was why we have to get the refrigerator replaced. We went on and on for months and months. Had they sent or chosen a more experienced technician, then we wouldn’t have had all the trouble with the refrigerator.

Our heater failed, wherein the fan was turning but it wasn't igniting, and so, it needed a new igniter. I've called AHS to submit a claim, but normally, we do it online since it's easier. However, I had to do the claim twice since on the first one, there was a cold spell here and I had an illness in the house, so I needed a quick service but the contractor couldn't be here for four days. So I canceled that and re-did it. I called AHS, spoke to a rep and told them the circumstances, then they came that very same day. It was a bad experience on the first one, but it was good for the second time. I would recommend AHS to others. Everything was good.

I was having a problem with my air conditioner. The unit outside the house was frozen solid like a block of ice. I tried to call American Home Shield to submit a claim, but I stayed on hold on the phone for a long time. I finally got the message through to the rep on what the issue was and then he set me up with the contractor who would be doing the repair. The guy sent by AHS came out and examined the AC unit and, initially, it seemed that the problem was with the compressor. The unit was a few years old and used Freon, which was going to be phased out, so he gave me the option of putting a new unit in. I opted to do that and paid the difference. The man apparently did a good job and everything worked out all right. Everything has been working well with the replacement AC. It is a higher SEER unit and it should be more efficient than the previous unit.
The repair operations didn’t bother me at all. I am a double amputee and my wife died last April, so I just sat here all day, down on the carpet, as the techs went about their business, tearing the old unit out and putting the new unit in. A couple of hours later, they had completed the work and everything was lovely. I like American Home Shield and I've not had a problem with them. I had a problem, though, with one of their contractors, the BPM heating and air conditioning company, a few years ago, but this company had changed hands and the new folks are a lot more knowledgeable.

I submitted a claim with AHS online since my HVAC system was having issues. Everything with their website was fine. However, the service provider was the issue. When I initially submitted the order, the service provider came out. Prior to the service provider telling me that I shut the system down, since it was not working properly, they kept tripping the breakers. Something was wrong, so I cut it off, and at that time, it wasn’t that cold. When the heat came out, he turned the system back on and within three to four minutes, he went down and checked out some things and came back up. He wrote up something in reference that the system was off, turned it back on and the system is running fine now. Maybe I was wrong since he was the technician.
The HVAC worked well for about five days but it was constantly tripping the breaker since everything up there was burning up, including the fuses and the wiring. So, when I tried to make contact with the service provider, they said that I had to go back to AHS. I went back to AHS, submitted the service order and it took me approximately three days to get in touch with the service provider to schedule an appointment. Unfortunately, it snowed and they said that roads were bad so they can’t make it and they rescheduled.
It was cold, so I called another service provider who at once did contract work for AHS. In the effort of trying to get some heat on in the house, that was the only recourse I had. I called in All Seasons, they came out and said that the system was burning up everything and that I’m endangered burning down my house if I continued and tried to use the system. So, the next day, they send the guy out and said that I needed to replace the system and that it was on safety. He won’t do any work because of the fact that it was dangerous. So, I had to order an HVAC. At that time, the system was not being used. I was supposed to contact AHS and get a second opinion. I’m a consumer and I was told to go ahead and buy at Walmart and it could only operate one of the years since too many kept tripping the breakers. I had to shut my house down in half and tried to keep the portion warm throughout this whole time.
That’s where we’re at now and it was back and forth a bit. It got tested with AHS for two weeks and then they finally service resolution expert or some other title they call. I have to give a copy of the entire work order to that provider and with the service order for him to review on Monday. Once I provide the information, he’ll review it and then go from there. I got a brand new unit and had it installed. I paid for that for the ease of the process. AHS American attempted to reimburse me a portion of it and they’re not completely finished yet. The contractor showed up for the initial work on the 5th of January and on the 16th of that same month, I sat down with them and they gave me the price and all the good stuff. And then they came that following Friday.
I’ve been with AHS for five years and it was the first time that I actually had an issue. Prior to the HVAC system breaking, my washer had broken and they came out and serviced it. Everything was perfect, and then the past has been the same way. What they need to do is become better with their phone system, since that was what was frustrated me. I was on hold for 45 minutes one day, an hour one day, another 45 minutes and I still haven’t talked to anyone. I was trying to call the line for my contract, but I was on hold for three days and never disconnected. I like the quickness of going online, but when I need to talk to a human, it’s nearly impossible. That was what made me resort back to calling All Seasons. I would tell other people that if they don’t mind waiting on hold for an extremely long time to talk to someone, go with AHS. For other services, other than HVAC issues, AHS is the best thing working right now.

My heating and air conditioning went kaput, so I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and it was easy. The contractor they sent were very personable. They knew what they were talking about and gave a very good service. However, I realized that AHS doesn't cover much, even the contractors agreed. AHS called me to give a cash-out option, but it was very one-sided. They told me what exactly they were paying for and they would not do a dime more. There was no negotiation. I ended up having to pay most of it out of my own pocket. I'm not really satisfied with AHS considering they made about $5,000 off me over eight years and they hardly cover anything.
Allan, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

My furnace wasn’t working. I just made a phone call to AHS and it was easy. People showed up the next day and he left his business card and he was very efficient and honest. I believe I would use that company again instead of the one that I normally use. It happened on a weekend and so I was expecting it would take three or four days and it didn’t. I was really pleased with that. The company that I called before I called American Home Home Shield, just forgetting that I had a Home Shield, wanted $138 an hour including them starting to drive from wherever they’re at. So, I would highly recommend AHS to anybody that have appliances. That was extreme and it didn’t end up costing me a hundred dollars so I was pleased. AHS was great and it worked out really well.

I went to AHS online to submit a claim for my air conditioning and it was good. On the other hand, I've always had an issue with the vendor who they call to come out to do the work. I have to call them back and forth to ask them to send somebody else out because I haven't heard from the vendors. One time, it took me a week trying to get them to get somebody out here. But my wife said that the technician that came was the best she ever dealt with and was decent. He checked the duct underneath the house because something was going on with that and he said everything was fine. And then I told him to check the unit to make sure everything was going well with the unit. He said that he checked it, but now, the heat in my conditioning upstairs is not coming out good. Sometimes heat comes out, and sometimes, cool air comes out. So, I got to get somebody back over to check that.
People tell me to get rid of American Home Shield and get what they have since they don't have issues with theirs, but anyone's going to have problems with warranty companies and that's something that I have to deal with. If anyone would ask me about AHS, I would tell them to check with all the warranty companies before they decide on one.

I needed my HVAC system serviced and American Home Shield put in the order. Then the contractor company Custom Heating & Air called and sent out their guy who found the problem with both of my two units. The parts were ordered and paid for American Home Shield then replaced by the contractor. He was on time, was excellent, and actually one of the better ones who had come out because he found a few problems that were overlooked by other companies that came out. The service was good and the experience was perfect.
I’ve had American Home Shield for 3 years and I’ve gotten quite a few things serviced. I would use their service again but the only thing is that I put in claims over the phone and I wish they would put something in place instead of having to wait on line for so long. Or they would take our name and call us back when we’re next in line. Because there’s a long wait period sometimes if I call. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield and tell others to call them.

I used the automated service system over the phone and told them what’s going on. Then they reached out to a service provider and the service provider called us, which took 18 hours to schedule an appointment.
The contractor and I talked about what we thought the problem was and he addressed it. It was simple since I’m a contractor too but I like AHS. I could have called somebody I know but then I got to wait for them. So, I prefer to use AHS's service. He had been here before and I was comfortable with him. He had the part that was needed on his truck and then he did the replacement. It was fixed the first time and it took 15 minutes after we did the troubleshooting. The system is running fine now. Every homeowner should use AHS and it’s better than a full coverage car insurance. There is some stuff that is not covered but if you’re not taking care of your house, it’s not going to work for you. You have to maintain your systems. I'd tell my friends, "You're crazy if you don't have AHS."

I filed a claim for a leaking toilet and it still isn't fixed. This outfit that American Home Shield used was terrible. I'm located in Northwest Phoenix. And this plumbing company is out in the Southeast Valley and they only come to this part of the metropolitan area first thing in the morning or last call in the afternoon, which I don't understand. The first time the guy came, which is about three weeks ago now, he saw what he thought was causing the leak. He says, "Well, I have to order a part." And he said, "I'll call you when it's in." I said, "Why do you have to order it?" He says, "I have to get back. When I get back in, I have to order the part."
I say, "Well, doesn't somebody in the office?" He says, "Well, there aren't any plumbers in the office to do it." So the plumber has to do it himself. And I said, "When it will be in?" He says, "I don't know." He said, "I'll call you when it's in." And so after about a week he called me. But they wouldn't set up a follow-up appointment until the part was in. So then, I had to wait to find something in the calendar that fit into both of our schedules. And the day that he was supposed to be here he called that afternoon and he said, "Well, I see that it's still leaking." He said, "I'm going to have to order a different part."
And I said, "Why are you calling now the day that you're supposed to be here to tell me that you have to order another part?" I said, "Why didn't somebody in the office?" He says, "We don't have any plumbers in the office." He said, "I have to order it." I said, "Well, how long is it going to take?" He said, "I don't know." So I didn't hear anything. Ten days later I called them back and said, "I've not heard a word. When is this part coming in?" And the woman in the office told me, "Well, it should be delivered to your house on the 8th of this month," which was yesterday.
I said, "It's being delivered to my house." She said, "Yes." I said, "Well, why don't I know this?" She says, "Well, didn't anybody call you?" I said, "No." So it arrived on Monday. So I called and it's today. It's the first time that somebody will come out. So he's supposed to be here between 2:00 and 6:00. What this says to me is this outfit clearly does not have anybody working in the office. An operations-type person who can order parts. And this is ridiculous. This has been going on three to four weeks. I've never worked with a plumbing repair place that did not have a person working, a scheduler, or a supervisor-type person who understood what plumbers do, that they couldn't order the part right there.
And I said to the plumber when he called me that day that before he got here when he said he had to order another part, I said, "Why are we just talking about this now, all this time later? He said, "Well, I don't see the orders until the day that I leave. And I just looked at yours a while ago and saw that the toilet is still leaking." It must be a very small operation.
And the reps are not addressing the problem. It's up to me. I had to call after it didn't work the first time. I had to call American Home Shield back to get an authorization for that plumber to come back. So I've had no follow-up from American Home Shield whatsoever. My contract with American Home Shield expired this week and I did not renew it with them. Don't use them. If you call their 800 number you can't get through. They tell you to go online. And there are people who don't have computers or older people who are not comfortable using computers. Their 800 number says, "We're awfully busy." And for some people that's just not very convenient at all. I was not impressed with them.

Our garage door worked fine with the buttons on the wall but the remote did not work. The first guy who came out here was very young. He indicated to AHS that there was a short in one of the resistors, that there must have been a power surge. I am an electronics engineer and when I came and looked at the unit, there was no short. I understand that nowadays people don't really repair garage doors once you get somebody who knows what to do. Also, because of what the guy indicated to AHS, the company wouldn't cover it. I was kind of ticked off because they were supposed to come out and help repair the thing.
My mom never had anything done until her husband passed. It was not that she was making them come out all the time. That was the first trip. And the garage door worked and she could get the door up. But when the first guy got up there and finished it, we couldn't get the door down. What happened was the guy tweaked some of the pots on there that reflected how much torque the motor would put out. He left the garage door where we couldn't even use it. And that ticked me off even more and I was very dissatisfied with the service that he did. I adjusted the pots on there which adjusted how far the door went down and up and how much torque we put on the motor.
Contractors need to be careful with what they say. Their inexperience could affect people in the future for getting something fixed and that was what aggravated me. It was a wasted call. My brother had to get on the phone with AHS and tell them that we wanted someone else to come out. So we had a second guy come out. He was an older gentleman who took the time to look at the problem and the board. He was so business-like and my mom felt like she was in good hands. He said that the board was a mess and he replaced it. He also said that it wasn't shorted. He put new wheels on the door too. But if the second guy didn't find out that it was truly just a part then we would have been out of even more money. That's not right. It's not like we get a list of people and can kind of interview them. Otherwise, my mom is thankful for the service and she is happy. But she thinks that AHS should hire people that had been checked out and know they can do the job.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for at least seven years, and I have six properties with them. Most of their vendors a really good, but sometimes, they also have mean vendors. Most recently, I called them about a plumbing issue in one of my properties, and I had a bad experience with United Temp., the vendor that they sent. They couldn’t do the best solution, so I had to call a different company, and they did the job. United Temp. has served me before, and they have been really good. However, their management changed two years ago, and now I have an issue with them.
The kitchen pipe in one of my properties was clogged. So, I asked them to send someone who knew what he was doing. The contractor was supposed to come between 3:30 to 5:30, but he showed up at 7:00 and said that he was running late. Moreover, he was brand new, and didn’t know what he was doing. He tried his best, but he couldn’t do anything, so he left. So, I called them, and their manager was extremely rude. I’ve never seen a manager talk like that. He tried to look for faults in something that I did, and he insisted about cleaning up the pipe. He said that they couldn’t do anything, and that his technician said that he couldn’t do anything, so it’s my fault. The house was built in ’99, so it wasn’t too old. So, what I did was call another person without going through American Home Shield, and they came in and fixed everything.
I’ve also had another experience where I had some AC problem, and needed a senior technician, and they didn’t send one. I asked the technician how long he’s worked, and he said only one year. But, when I called them to confirm, they said five years. So, they lied. They talk to customers, and then talk to AHS with completely different statements. I have people living in my basement, and I called he and she told me that she opened the door when United Temp. came. But, the manager also called AHS, and he said that they couldn’t go in the basement because the people living there weren’t opening the door. American Home Shield should investigate and listen to their vendors and customer and judge them. I also sent AHS an email, but they didn’t respond.

There is NO WAY to contact AHS from their website to file a complaint about either a service provider or about AHS. You can only contact their Complaint Department at PO Box 849 Carroll, IA 51401 by postal service; aka snail mail. The ONLY way to even get that information is by waiting a long time for their "live chat" to give you the address. AHS will take your money for the $75 service call fee over the internet, and you can request service over the internet, but you can NOT discuss the quality of work performed (good or bad) under the warranty or the quality of service from AHS over the internet. You have to write a letter. That significantly reduces the number of policyholders who will remember to follow through or who will not just give up.
American Home Shield does a good job of Shielding themselves from the American Homeowner when there is a problem. The service provider you will get is of THEIR choice, not yours. The policyholder has no choice or say in who will be the provider; you get what you get. Of 2 service requests so far, one excellent and one terrible.
Hello, John. Thank you for advising us of your service experiences. We are doing all that we can to get the call centers fully staffed to cut down on that hold time. We apologize if it has caused any issues for you. The policy does state that we do send our contractor's, unfortunately, there is no way around that. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to further discuss your concerns.

However, some additional changes which comes down to $1680 not covered by my plan. When I asked, "Please provide me a list of items not covered by the plan," but they refused to do so (even I made multiple calls and wasted hours on phone holding). Finally I hired a local contractor and got unit replaced- paid from my own pocket. AHS told me they can only reimburse only $443.00 which is ridiculous. I spend over 3000k to replace the unit. Please cancel your warranty. Not worth it.

We had around 16 guests staying at a lake house that we were renting out on VRBO and they were gonna be there for Thanksgiving. They called and said that the plumbing was backing up which was on a septic tank. I called American Home Shield and asked them if they could get somebody out there. AHS called a few people and they assigned a plumber to us. I called the plumber and the plumber was closed. He was only gonna be available the following week.
I called AHS back and I told them that the guy wasn't gonna be available. The lady was really helpful. She tried to call several other plumbers and left messages with several different plumbers to say that we needed plumbing help. But after a while, none of those plumbers contacted me. Usually, American Home Shield requires that you get an authorization from them before you can call anybody else. So, I called them to try to get that authorized but I really struggled to get a hold of them. They were all long waits to speak to a customer representative.
So, I found and called a plumber myself and the guy went out there and took care of the problem. I advised American Home Shield that I had to get somebody else. Then, we put in a claim to have our money refunded because I had to pay the plumber directly. AHS covers certain items and they don't cover the septic tank but they cover problems before that. And before they cover a problem, they want to make sure that it was something they would cover. I got a very helpful lady at American Home Shield who worked with us, spoke to the plumber, and found out that it was blockage before it had got to the septic tank. And then, they refunded our money. Overall, I was satisfied with the way that they dealt with it although it took a long time.
I have AHS for if something breaks and I need it fixed, especially in a house that we rent out which could be immediate in many times. I think they're prepared for regular stuff. But what I would like for them to have is somebody that they can use that will come out as a back-up. I am out in an area where it's a bit more rural so, that makes it a little bit more difficult. It's hard to get somebody in case of an emergency. If it was my own house, maybe I would not have been so worried.

Having a home warranty gives me peace of mind. I wish I didn’t have it but it’s better to be safe than sorry. When I submit my claims online, I type AHS.com and go through the whole motions. They ask me for my address to verify my information, then they ask me what’s my problem. The process is pretty fast. I recently put in two claims at the same time with American Home Shield. One was for the repair of my electrical fan and the other one was for the checking of the fan of my air conditioner. We had snow days at the time and the first guy who came for my electrical fan came out right away. The job was over in one day and I was very happy with him.
On the other hand, the air conditioner guy cancelled three times. The first time was for personal reasons while the others were for the snowing. When he finally came, I was also not too satisfied with his assessment. Sometimes my duct work would be blowing cold air and when he checked it, he said that he didn't see anything loose. Other than that, both the contractors were very nice, friendly, courteous and respectful.

There were sand coming out inside the pool, so the laterals had to be replaced to make it function properly. I called in because there have been so many problems with American Home Shield. And unfortunately, you’re not allowed to have much opportunities to communicate with anybody via email. Another email to somebody and they do not reply, which is the most inconvenient thing in the world.
I just wrote them a letter regarding a payment - which is the third time I’ve had the same issue with American Home Shield, telling me that we’re delinquent in payment when we paid in advance for a service - rather than wait for a time to call in their phone service at least two to three times, ‘cause it always hangs up on you after waiting about 20 or 30 minutes. So, it can’t be an accident, it's way too coincidental. It’s trying to make it frustrating as hell for everybody so they’d give up and use some other method to contact them. But again, they’ll never provide you an email address to contact anybody for anything. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever dealt with. So, now I’ve just given up on it. Any questions coming, I’m not going to go through all of this nonsense again. I don’t have an hour and a half to waste every time I call this people.
I was very pleased with the contractors. They couldn’t be nicer, and they all did a great job. However, it’s just disorganization and poor customer service as far as American Home Shield keeping their records straight, calling up the vendors, etc.

I've been with American Home Shield a little over five years, and I've had some communication issues with them in the past. When you make a claim, they may tell you to go ahead and give it a minute and then call the contractor to set up an appointment on that. Most of the contractors get very mad when they do that. The contractors would say they haven't gotten the request yet, it'll be a while before they get the request and they'll call you when they get it.
Recently, my heater didn’t feel like it was as hot or strong as it once had felt, and before it got very cold outside, I figured it might be a good time to get whatever what was going on fixed. I called Greenway directly because I'd done business with them before and I knew that they dealt with American Home Shield, and they informed me that I needed to talk to AHS first since the policy was changed. But they transferred me to AHS and everything went smoothly. The contractor seemed to be very polite. He explained the issue and fixed it.

We needed some plumbing services and my wife tried filing a claim to American Home Shield online but there was an issue there so it was done over the phone instead. The technician AHS sent was great. He showed up on time and took a proactive approach. There was one problem that he also solved and was able to complete the service even though he didn't have exactly what he needed at the time. Unfortunately, one of the pieces which he said that there was some risk on broke yesterday morning. So, he did three different things and the other two were perfect. AHS do not cover some of the services that we thought would be covered. And we've had some issues with our account due to some confusion on the billing process.

Our furnace wasn’t working. I put the call in. That was an afternoon and I got a call from the company the next day to schedule. And I think they came the following day, or I may have even gotten a call that same day. We usually haven't had it that quick, and then they came that next day. In fact, we only went one night without heat. Everything was perfect. The contractor was professional and quick, and fixed the problem right on the spot. He was able to answer everything. The furnace is working fine now. I think AHS is worth it. I just think of the times when we've called before, and we’ve had to call a company on our own to get them out here that day or next day because they couldn’t have anybody come out for several days. We had a plumbing issue one time and it was going to be days for AHS to have somebody come.

I've been paying with American Home Shield for about seven years because I live in a 52-year-old property. I know that things are going to start to deteriorate, so I've been keeping Home Shield as a protection for me. After being here for 40 years, something happened with the electricity but then I thought, “Well, I'm covered.” AHS sent one guy out and he went through the whole house. He was very thorough. He said I’ve got wires that are crossed but I said that I didn’t do it. He said, “Well, whoever you had doing something here, they did it." He also said he didn’t think AHS would pay for it because it's part of my contract. That was something that is eliminated.
They sent out another guy who was much better. But he also said that the reason was that there were wires that were crossed. He took pictures and he sent it back in. I got a notification from American Home Shield that I'm not covered because there was a clause in the contract that there are things that would not be covered under the electrical part of the contract. And whatever happened wasn’t under that. I ended up having to pay $1,000 out of my pocket to have someone come out and fix everything. I live on Social Security, so it's very frustrating.
Also, American Home Shield has told me that I could use one of the people that they had sent out and who I like very much to fix it. The guy said he would come out but I never heard from them again. They didn’t call. Luckily, I had someone else who came out who was wonderful and fixed everything. I sent it in to American Home Shield so they saw that everything was fixed. If something else goes wrong, I'm still covered. I was very upset because I've been paying all this time for something like that if it goes wrong and I wouldn't have to pay for it. But I can understand some of their policy and I understood that it's an exclusion. And generally, I'm very pleased with everything that I've ever done with American Home Shield.
My only thing is that when I first signed up with them seven years ago, my rate was like $25 a month. Now, it's $40 a month. The fee has gone up a lot which I'm not happy about. Also, lately, I haven't been able to get through on the telephone with them. I'm very upset about that. In one of their numbers, if something is broken in your house, if you say yes to that and hit number one on the phone, they’ll pick it up right away, but if it's any other question, they can keep you waiting for as long as 20 minutes. I was going to send this information that I've had it all fixed and I sat there. But they didn’t pick up. That never used to be the case.
But they have come out, answered their phone right away, and sent somebody out. I can connect with whoever they give me the number of and I usually make the call because I don’t want to wait for the company that they say. They usually come out the next day and I've always been satisfied with whoever they send out. It's all local help.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was opened up because of a pressure regulator that was found to be bad after the installation of a water heater, which was a previous ticket for them. So on the initial case they wouldn't cover it because it wasn't initially authorized the first time, which infuriated me because it didn't have the one problem until they tried to fix the first problem. I was out of more money and more days, waiting for a plumber and potential issues with my water system.
The initial claim was put in online. The follow up I had to speak to an agent in which they sent a plumber out, which then AHS had to call me. And they had to open up another ticket and send out another plumber another day later. Substantially I had no water for five days. You take showers at neighbors' houses and inconvenient them. So American Home Shield's turnaround times aren't quick enough for certain things. The water is going everywhere and all over my basement and I tried to explain to AHS, "If it continues, if I would have left my water on my finished basement it would have been flooded and then we would have a homeowners claim." They do seem not to care. But with most incidents they have been good.
I understand your concerns with the delay service you encountered to have your water heater issues resolved. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Everything went in one week and I had several claims. One was my refrigerator. It was leaking water. The gentleman came out and took care it. Apparently, the model of refrigerator that I had had an old drain plug that was faulty from the get-go. So they replaced it with the latest model for that particular refrigerator. And then I had a dryer claim. The contractor cleaned it out and switched out the heating element. Then I had another claim with my heater, which is powered by propane. It was an igniter issue and it failed to come on. The gentleman came out and took care of the issue. But then I had to call them back and he took care of something else. He said he was going to order some parts and everything seems to be working okay now.
I made one claim online and I another on the phone. I get lazy sometimes and I like to talk to people so often. The website was good too and everything was fine. My techs were great. They were friendly and very knowledgeable. They gave me some good tips. They were also interactive. It was like they were my neighbors. I'm also a licensed realtor and I have the option of using a variety of home warranty products, depending on which side of the transaction I'm on. So I know that everyone has their good and bad stuff. But I’ve had American Home Shield since 2001 and I've really never had an issue at all with them.
I suggest having a warranty to everybody. Everybody who owns, rents or has anything to do with a home should have a warranty company that they value. Because obviously, as any advertising would highlight, the cost of repairs is not getting any cheaper. So sometimes, it's just good to have some backup insurance for those big ticket items.

The tech came out for our claim about the electrical and he really knew what he was doing and got it fixed right then and there. However, we have an ongoing affair regarding our refrigerator where its back kept on freezing up and freezing some of the vegetables. However, the rest of the refrigerator still works so I was chill about the whole thing. I submitted the claim online and the repairman said to give it a week and if it's still freezing up, I just go online and let American Home Shield know. The good news was that I only had to pay one $75 fee to have the repairman come out. The tech that American Home Shield sent was very nice. I was impressed because he was super good and each time, he'd call ahead to confirm he is coming. He had to come out three times because it was a matter of trial and error and trying to figure out what the problem was and fixing it.
After about two months, they deemed it non-repairable but AHS was great about providing funds to replace it. They gave me an option whether I order a refrigerator or they do what’s called a “cash in lieu of”. I opted to take the cash so I get to purchase whatever refrigerator I wanted. They sent a check in the mail and I got it after about two weeks. We have a sub-zero and it was pricey but it was old so the amount that they gave me was fair. Some other companies cap it at $1000 but American Home Shield provided $3000 which was substantial.
I was pleased because I have read some horror stories about some maintenance companies that don’t want to honor claims. I was really pleasantly surprised and happy that they did honor it. Also, they didn’t give me a hard time at all and they were very accommodating. We had about three different things within a year to have somebody come out and each time, it was easy to work with them. I also love that they have the online thing where you could put in a ticket so you don’t have call. It's very efficient. My experiences have been really positive and I would definitely refer them to friends.

My heat didn’t work in the downstairs part of the house. So, I put in the claim and the contractor came in a timely fashion and assessed the problem. They determined that I needed to have my heat pump replaced, and they had to go through approval ordering, etc. They came and put in the new unit the first Friday of January. I had no heat in the downstairs of my house during that time because there was a sparking situation and the house could catch on fire. So, I turned off the breaker and they replaced it and then the inspector had to come. He rang my doorbell but it was not working. He had to come back the next Friday because that was my day off and he decided that I needed to have a different breaker. They came and replaced the breaker today and I’m waiting for the inspector to come back again.
I put in a claim back in October because my microwave turntable didn’t go around and I couldn’t regulate my oven. American Home Shield hooked me up with a repair person. He came and assessed the situation, and he said that they had to replace my stove. The stove was replaced and they had to order a part for the microwave. By Thanksgiving, I still hadn’t heard anything, so I called American Home Shield. They said he had an office problem and he’d call me Monday. He called me on Wednesday. Then they changed my technician because they no longer work with this guy who wouldn’t show up and wouldn’t do the repair. Today, somebody from a different repair place came and assessed my microwave. The turntable still doesn’t turn. He has ordered the part and the part should be delivered to me. He’ll come back in two weeks and fix it.
The heat works fine. I have a new stove and the oven works great. But this however is probably the worst that I’ve had. I’ve had American Home Shield for 24 years, I have never had a service person not call me back within 24 hours of the time I put in the claim. I’ve never had them not be able to come in a timely fashion. I’ve never had them not do the work within a week. Also, it’s really difficult to get to talk to American Home Shield. You’re on hold for a really long time. At one point I found a place where I could do an online chat which I liked. And that seemed to work but then I looked another time and I couldn’t find that. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is definitely a positive thing to get. They have a great product though they get bad technicians sometimes.

I submitted that claim online since it was hard to get them over the phone. They could improve getting in contact with them. The longest I've been on hold on the phone was 20 minutes. I decided to go to their online site, which was easy to use. I actually needed to get online to change some stuff on my account but I can't 'cause it was hard to get through and I have to speak with someone at AHS.
The contractors who came here for my heating kept me in the loop about everything and they called me through each part they ordered. But with the electrical issue right now, the contractor said that he was trying to figure out what is going on as far as the wiring in the house. I haven't heard from him at all since last Friday. He said that he was going to let me know when he went back out to the house on Tuesday but the house was empty at that time.
I plan on reaching out to AHS and find out how long it's going to be before the contractor would have everything done. We got other stuff that still needs to be done to the house and I still have other contractors coming out and they will need electricity. But other than that, I'm glad AHS got better contractors now 'cause before, when I first got them, the people they sent out sucked. But now the contractor they deal with are great. He got back in a few days and was out in the garage for an hour. He did his thing and informed me when he was done. It was great.
I called about a tub issue on a Wednesday and the contractor came out the next day. I told them I would be on vacation and that they needed to get it done. The plumbing company told me on Thursday that they put me first on the list so I got all my crap done in the morning. They opened at 9:00. They called me at 9:30 and the guy was here at 10:00. With American Home Shield, the response is the freaking best.
The guy was very professional and courteous too. We chitchatted a little bit about sports. The tub's leaking into the garage and I thought there was a pipe broken in the ceiling in the garage. It didn’t feel warm, but it didn’t feel cold either. I turned the heater back to 65 when I left, so I'm going to see how much is running when I go there tonight.
However, I've been on the phone with AHS multiple times because I keep getting a notice that I'm $75 past due on my account. This is my first billing ever with them. I called back yesterday again because I got a statement in the mail the other day and then I got an email that my account was past due so I paid my $75. I have my receipt and I'm getting kind of aggravated with the situation. They kept telling me that my balance was zero and this has been going on for two weeks now. Other than that, my experience has been good.

Complaint to AHS: First I'd like to say that I have been a customer of AHS for over 10 years - I was at a different address in Edison and then moved to my current address. I've always been satisfied with the work I have had done although I think your prices are increasing too much. However, on July 24, 2017, I had a new garbage disposal (since the old one was faulty) installed by Hanna's Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Dispatch **, (sent to me by AHS). It only took about 30 minutes and the job was done. I had to pay $103.00 for the co-pay (now they charge tax on your co-pay which I think is totally unfair). Just yesterday, I turned on my kitchen sink faucet and water came pouring out underneath the sink into my cabinet. So, I called AHS and asked them to send me a plumber.
Now, I live in an adult community and asked one of our Maintenance people to take a look at it. What he found is NOT acceptable. It seems that when the new garbage disposal was installed, the tech "jerry-rigged" it to fit even though one of the pipes was too small/short. So, he jammed the pipe in and held it with some tape; he also put in the elbow connection incorrectly. It held for 6 months and then the tape fell apart and the flood ensued. According to AHS, I only have a warranty of 60 days with any work order. Obviously, this poor installation lasted for 6 months since it was taped but the use of the garbage disposal caused it to loosen and flood.
Consequently, after the Maintenance person was able to fix it, I cancelled the job I called into AHS. I had to pay him $50 for his labor and new part, but it was less than the $103.00 requested by AHS. Needless to say, I am totally dissatisfied with the AHS service. I think you use inferior, contractors that are cheap and don't have experienced people. What is my recourse with AHS? Can I get reimbursed for the $103.00 I paid for Hanna’s on July 24 for a poor job or can I at least get reimbursed for the $50.00 I had to pay someone else? OR can I get one month free of my monthly service fee to AHS? Please contact me ASAP. Thank you.

I blew a motor on my furnace on my heat and I submitted a claim to AHS online. The contractor they sent has been out before for other problems and I’m glad that they send the same one. The furnace was fixed in a matter of hours. He’s a great guy, he’s knowledgeable, he gets the job done, and explains to me what he’s doing. I would be happy to recommend American Home Shield to everybody. The only thing they need improvement on is when you are trying to call and get a hold of them verbally, person to person. The wait time is outrageous. In my opinion, they ought to do what a lot of companies do, a habit where you leave your name and number and they call you back instead of sitting on hold for 10 to 15 minutes.

The door on my dishwasher won't stay closed and I had four different companies sent by AHS down here working on it. The contractors were all nice but they couldn't fix the problem. The last guy who was out to work on it was here three times. He tried something but that didn't work. He came back and tried something else and that didn't work either. He called American Home Shield and he asked them if they wanted him to replace it or to try to repair it. AHS sent him some more parts and he came back and put them in but the dishwasher still didn't work. He said he couldn't do it anymore and that was all he could repair. The dishwasher is still not working and I'm waiting for American Home Shield now to figure out what is going on. They're going to replace it if there's nothing they can do to it.
I haven't had any bad experiences with AHS but it's just waiting for them to make up their mind if they want to replace something or not. When my water heater went out, AHS called somebody and he came out and fixed it. It's not the case with the dishwasher though. The dishwasher works fine if the door would stay closed. In order to use it, I'd have to stand there and hold the door closed so it won't pop open. Overall, I'd tell somebody to go ahead and try American Home Shield if they wanted it.

I had a leak in my water heater and American Home Shield got somebody to check it. I called AHS first and the rep I talked to was great. Then I had to give my signature for the paperwork online. The contractor was very informative and polite. He educated me to a lot of what was happening because I've never gone through this before. They bought a unit and brought it over and installed it. It was great service. Everybody was nice and everybody was right on it. Two contractors came to do the installation. They had the material they put on my carpet all the way up to the stairs so they wouldn’t hurt or damage my carpet. Also, they were very considerate of my walls and they never even got close to them. They were really careful with my place and that was really important to me. American Home Shield was great in every aspect and have done well with me and I would recommend them.

There are things that I don’t like about AHS. Number one is that I can't get exact or quality replacements when I always buy quality stuff. AHS did not replace my kitchen sink with what I had and so it doesn't work properly. The other thing is that I can’t seem to get the fireplace covered. The contract states is I put and install something in the house, it’s covered. But with the fireplace installed and in the house, it’s not covered.
The biggest thing is that I could not get a hold of AHS. There's no way to contact the office. I tried to call AHS for an hour and 20 minutes to submit a claim for my heat exchanger because I had some questions with it, but I was kept on hold forever so I filed online but there's no place to ask a question. Then AHS did not allow the service people to get a Lennox weeks ahead when I know Lennox was available. I am not totally dissatisfied with AHS since I just signed a new contract and added insurance to my appliances too. The service that I had from the local vendors have been great.

I'm glad I got American Home Shield. When my toilet wasn't working properly, I submitted a claim with them and the guy who came in assessed the situation. Then he replaced the defective part and it didn't take him 10 minutes to make the repair. There had been no problem with it ever since. I usually submit my claims to AHS over the phone and their representatives were always good and pretty accurate. Sometimes, it took a long time for them to take the call because everybody was calling all at one time and they were busy. But their service was worth the wait. The contractors they have sent were very professional, too. I had another issue with the garbage disposal and just like the plumbing issue, the contractor came in, assessed it, and replaced the part. He was in and out.

Everything has been going well with American Home Shield. Every time I have a repair, they are prompt in getting back to me and I haven't had any trouble with them. I typically submit my claims online. I fill in what the service is needed. Then, I will get an email back almost immediately, and they'll tell me when the company that's servicing will contact me. The last claim I had was for my refrigerator. Slowly, it would not dispense ice. Then it got worse where it wouldn't dispense at all. I have recommended AHS to several people. When I had to call them, their reps have been very good, prompt, and very courteous. The policy is well worth the cost and the contractors they sent out were good, except for the first one I ever had who was slow in responding and didn't get back to me after the initial contact.

The thermostat in my heater needed to be replaced. Filing an online claim with American Home Shield for it was really easy. It was Friday night, and I got a call Saturday morning that they could come out. It was a really big shock since I didn't expect to hear anything from anybody. They said they would give me a callback within 24 business hours, which usually means the business day so I didn't expect to hear anything until Monday. The contractor was really nice and friendly. He called me to let me know he was coming, which is a big help since we work during the week. We also got a text before giving me a time when he was on the way. Then, the repairman showed up at the house, came in, fixed the problem, and made sure that it was working correctly.
I had an issue with another contractor and another appliance. The potential service person wasn't very good at handling callbacks, but they didn't call me back, so I called American Home Shield. AHS said that the contractor was not within the time frame of calling me back and that they'd get somebody else out here. When AHS got someone else to come out and the previous contractor called and asked me if they needed to come back, I said, "No, we have somebody else coming out." They said, "We can cancel," and I replied, "No, I don't want to cancel. You've been putting me off for two weeks." They said," We can come out today." I said, "I don't care. I'll pass. This person, I know they're coming." American Home Shield was really good about dealing with my issue. They asked if I wanted them to give the previous contractor another call or if I wanted to deal with one of them. I'd rather deal with somebody else and they were agreeable to that.
I have had to have somebody come out a total of three times, but the service was really excellent. If I have to make a claim on the same appliance within a certain amount of time, they won't charge me for it. They'll hold my fee for coming back out and I'll be able to get it fixed without having to pay any extra fees. They need to make it so that one can cancel an appointment online. Currently, if I set up an appointment for somebody to come out and look at an appliance, but then realize that it was just a loose hose or wire, I have to call in to cancel. We've had AHS since we bought the house and it is worth the money, especially with an older home. I've had to use them more recently than I did in the beginning since as my house got older, my appliances got older.

Last year, AmTech came out to fix again my oven. The heat shield broke when the microwave was on clean and the guy ended up spreading broken glass all over our kitchen. He communicated relatively well. He was just extremely careless. I ended up cleaning it up too. In my last dealings with AmTech, I had called American Home Shield and requested them not to send AmTech again but they still did which was so annoying. I put a claim in on December 14th and very quickly, somebody was assigned. He showed up three days later and said he’d get back to us when the parts were in. Two weeks later I started calling for status and I got no response from AmTech. I called again and they didn’t know why it hasn’t been processed but they said they would have the manager contact American Home Shield. But every time I try to call American Home Shield, I have to wait on the phone an hour to unlimited amounts of time and I don't always have an hour.
One time, I wound up with the real estate division answering and they said they can't help me. They were just answering the phone because the other call center was closed because of a snow storm. Normally, the representatives are very cooperative and helpful. Things started changing when AHS lost two call centers in the hurricane and that was why it was all of a sudden the way it was, unendurable. That was what I heard. Prior to eight months ago when the hurricanes came in, I recommended AHS to everybody. I thought very highly of them as a company but not since my last experience. Waiting an hour on the phone is not a reasonable thing to ask people. Plus the hurricane was long enough ago that the wait shouldn’t be that long.

American Home Shield has done a couple of things for us. The contractor that fixed the refrigerator was excellent and the other companies we dealt with were fantastic. Then, when something went wrong with one of our AC units, we called AHS and they sent a group of people in. They said what was wrong then we went and checked, and they were right. They said that the part needed to fix it didn't exist anymore and that they were going to modify some stuff upstairs and charge me $1,100 add-on to whatever my fees would have been. It should have been covered except for our $75 deductible. I said that that didn't make sense so, I called two other HVAC companies. One was my friend and one I didn't know. They both came in and found the part within a couple of minutes.
When I passed that information to American Home Shield, they said they could only use the company that they have, but they could cut me a check for about a third of what the repair would cost. I told them that that was great and to go ahead with it. They got me about 1,100 bucks even though the part was right online, and I sent it to them. So do not use the HVAC company that AHS uses.
Then, the last claim we had was for our washer that stopped working which we submitted online and they took care of it. Within two days, they sent someone out. The contractor diagnosed the problem and fixed it immediately. They did exactly what I hoped for and everything has been perfect since the repair. Overall, we've been AHS members for too long just to drop them because of the one bad time we had.

It was on the fridge, and the microwave plugged in the plug and they said it needed a separate plug. So, they fixed the light switch but they had to run a new line for the other one and they said that AHS didn't cover that. The repair went 100% as far as the light switch went, but as far as the fridge and the outlet going to it, it’s still the same because they said I needed another line. The reps were great and the contractor knew what he was doing. They did a great job overall.

I've been with AHS for two years now. I called them to submit a claim for our reversible heat pump. It was more personable when I speak to somebody and the reps that I talked to were very polite. The contractors were very courteous, clean and tidy. The interactions with them were good. The first time they came out, they were fairly quick. But when they left, I had a problem. The fan started squealing badly to the point where it was getting ready to lock up, and so I turned it off. Then they came back out and checked it again. They fixed it, but then, it was louder than normal. So I asked them about that and they said that they couldn’t come out just because it was loud. They said it was because of the RPM. It was a newer motor than what they took off. But it’s working fine and I’ve got heat.
I will encourage others to try AHS. I was with their competitor for a while, and they’ve done well with me as well. But I switched because the AHS rates were a bit lower and more affordable for me. It’s good to have an extra policy for my appliances and if something happens in my home, I got that extra peace of mind. I can call somebody and they can come out and fix the problem. It's good and it helps that I don't have to pay this huge fee that most contractors want right up front.

However, there was only one person, and he got here late. He had another brand-new install prior to us, so he arrived a little bit in the evening until about 1 o’clock in the morning to finish up. But other than that, he was an excellent technician. So, I think that it would be more practical if they had a team of two, so they won’t have to send one person out. I had several issues with appliances and the plumbing. But the biggest issue and the most important thing with American Home Shield was getting someone on the phone. I had to wait an hour or more before I actually spoke to somebody on what was wrong. The last time I called and it took a long time to get through to someone, I did not wait anymore to speak to somebody.
But once I got someone to talk to at AHS, we've had good interactions. The reps listened to my problem with what was going on and they were not rude. Then they let me know that they’d send the technician out. Also, once AHS got somebody to come out, that person did what needed to be done. The contractors that they’ve sent out to do some work for me have been good. In one claim, the appointment was changed and the reps failed to relay this to the technician, but he still managed to call back and make the appointment and everything is still okay with what was repaired.
Not too long ago, I called about the stove. The AHS people were supposed to call and get back with me on Monday on whether or not they were able to get the parts for the stove, but I haven’t heard anything from them yet, so I cannot give them a very good rating. Actually, I’m thinking about changing to a home warranty with a lesser fee, as the monthly fee that AHS has been charging was high. Moreover, when I called them for a repair, the problem had to occur while the techs were there, and sometimes that didn't happen but they still charged us the $75 deductible.

My 15-year-old electric dryer was not working recently. The technician came, checked it and tried to repair it but it did not work. So he ordered a part and replaced the old one but still, it did not work. He said he had to go for some more replacement. I asked why not get a new piece instead of repairing it. They said that if it can be repaired, they have to repair it. I was not willing to take that because even though they repaired the unit with another part, it could break down again in a few months. I asked them the repair amount that they could offer me so that I would pay from my pocket and get a new one. They offered me a minimum amount and the remaining amount went around. It was resolved and I got a new dryer with my money.
I also had a refrigerator which was almost 15 years old. It broke down a couple of times earlier and AHS fixed it, but it could break down at any moment so I told them that I didn't want to wait for that to happen and wanted to go for a new one. They said that I couldn't do that unless it is broken and they couldn't offer any repair cost to anything. So, I went on my own and bought a new refrigerator. If I bought a $400 refrigerator and they had a policy that could offer me $250, that would be useful. Otherwise, repairing a very old refrigerator would cost us both.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield because my refrigerator was leaking. I guess a hose went bad. A gentleman came out and I had a very, very nice experience. He went to the basement, disconnected the water, which we had tried to do on our own. And had to order parts. He nicely called to reschedule and came back with the parts and got it running. He gave me some advice to make sure I depressurize the filter or turn off the water, so that it depressurizes to put the filter in, which I had never heard before so that was helpful.
The same gentleman fixed my dryer. It needed belt or something. The thing is 20 years old but it's miraculously repaired. I've also had him here for my refrigerator and my dishwasher. I really like him. He's very matter-of-factly. He brought in an apprentice one time and asked if that would be okay. He's very thorough. When for my dishwasher, he had a kid down there with him. He's like, "Are you sure?" I said, "I'm sure I don't mind. It's fine." I kept making sure that I was okay with the fact because I don't like a lot of different people in my home.
And then for the disposal it cost me with $100 deductible. All it was a little bit of food trapped in there so he just came in and unscrewed something. The guy couldn't have been here 30 seconds and left. It didn't really need any repair. And I still had to pay the $100. I submit a claim both online and over the phone because some of the categories don't go together.
The dishwasher guy couldn't fix the disposal. I thought that was kind of odd. Even though he does do that but not through Home Shield. He couldn't get that certification. The representative was very nice and very kind -- explained to me why that is. As a consumer I would try to get the most big thing for my buck. So I would want the disposal guy to the be dishwasher guy because it means one visit and one payment so it was disappointing.
But the contractor fixes the issue that he came for. And if he notices something else has got to be done like with the dryer he'll say, "You'll need this and that too so I'm going to reschedule. I'll come back. Let's get the parts and come back." Same with the refrigerator. I would tell a friend to definitely get AHS. I have two properties and I have it for both. I have had to use it at my condo in Wisconsin. I'm happy that I have it. I'm a single woman and it makes it as easier for me. Instead of being at the mercy of contractors that prey on single woman.

Within the next couple of weeks, another appointment was set up and he fixed the faucet. It’s working much better than it was before I filed the claim. The only problem that I have is that I don't agree with having to pay the $100 deductible when I pay so much every month. I thought that my monthly fee would cover repairs. But in the beginning they told me I needed to pay $250, $125 for the heater and $125 for the air conditioner. I thought I did that online with them but evidently, I didn’t. Then I got a bill so then I called them up again and that person was very helpful. I have no complaints against them and like the idea of paying ahead before the service fee because then it’s out of the way and the technician they send out doesn’t have to deal with it. I use my charge card and pay it online. The second person I talked to caught it and said “No, you don’t have to pay two service fees. It’s the same companies and it’s the same unit. They’re all in one.” So she saved me a $125.
I love American Home Shield but it’s somehow pricey. I go back and forth every year thinking if I should I have it but I’m a single person by myself and I own my mobile home and I think everybody should bite the bullet and have it. You may not use it for two or three years but like in this case, that could have cost a lot more money. So I’m very happy with it. I would tell my friends about American Home Shield and would describe to them what it covers and what it doesn't. But I would recommend that people just take good care of their stuff and then just have AHS because the heating and air conditioning unit for mobile home, you’re probably looking at eight to $10,000 where I only pay $95 every two years with AHS.

I’ve had to use AHS a few times. They did the air conditioner then the heater this past year. I had somebody come out to do my dryer too. Everything’s in great working condition now. AHS is good and they come out and fix the problem. I've had them for years and I have had no problems except getting through them and getting on hold forever. When I finally did get somebody one time, they gave me another number and that number works fabulously. It rings a couple of times and then I get through with an operator in about a minute. With their regular phone line that I call in, I had about a 20-minute wait. It was horrible. If they’re that busy that they need somebody to wait 20 minutes, that’s ridiculous. They should have a better answering service and have another number.
But when I get through a them, it’s fine and they're helpful. And after they get the information, they’re fast with fixing the object that has to be repaired. They solve the problem in a timely manner. I feel like I’m safer having AHS. If something goes wrong with my air conditioner, I have that to fall back on. It's just that prices kept going up now. I just got a new bill and the price went up.

Our refrigerator was leaking and our microwave shut off automatically after two seconds. The claim was perfect. I went online, paid the $75, and they scheduled the guy to come out. The guy that came out was very talkative but he was very polite and knowledgeable. He fixed the refrigerator really quick and then submitted the claim on the microwave 'cause there's nothing he can do about that. It would cost more to fix it than it would to replace it. I'd recommend AHS. It's been about seven or eight years that we've been using them or since we got the house. Without a warranty, it would be too expensive.

Two outlets in the house were out, one in each bathroom and I tried to troubleshoot a little but it might have been a bigger thing that I don’t want to get involved with. So I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I usually call them but because it has been such a cold winter throughout most of the states, things have been happening, and call times have been longer so I decided to use the online for a change and it worked out well for me. Vlad of VLP Electric came out and he was the nicest person in the world. He did a great diagnostic on our house and the problem and told us what were the possibilities of why it didn’t function. Then, after it was repaired, he explained what he did and how we can alleviate this in the future. He was out of our house within 30 minutes and he did a fine job. I couldn’t ask for a better service than him.
We’ve used American Home Shield since ’92 for four houses that we’ve owned here in California. And each time we’ve had either the simplest thing or very complicated issues that were all resolved very nicely. That’s why we continued to use American Home Shield. And I have recommended them to friends. It’s worth using a company like this because we give a minimal amount and they’ll take care of it and make sure it’s fixed no matter what for that payment. Plus they have good people working for their company. It’s worth having that insurance that we pay for every year just in case of issues with a doorbell, electric garage door opener, outside lights, heating or air conditioning; the mechanical stuff. You never know when something’s gonna go wrong and something that could cost $3,000 is only gonna cost you $100.

I've been very happy with the service of American Home Shield over the years. We had an electronic keypad on our oven which can turn everything on and off and the timer evidently had a short. I called it in and they had the entire keypad replaced. I submitted the claim online and it was the first time I did it. I like it, but sometimes I prefer to talk to somebody. I've had problems in the past where there were changes that were made to my account number, so sometimes talking to a person is a little easier to check than having to figure things out. Their people are very helpful. They open the claim up for me, let me know the particular vendor that’s going to call me, and then I sit back and wait to be contacted by the service provider. I had a gentleman that came out to evaluate the oven and had to order some parts, and it was the same guy that came back to replace it. They were very nice and professional.

I have had this policy for almost a year and every time I've called there has been a problem. The most recent was a pipe leaking in my ceiling. I put in my request Friday night and the repair was finally done today. That's 4 days with turning the breaker on and off on the pump and water running down my wall. The wait times for service technicians is unacceptable and the wait times for a representative to answer a call is always an hour or more. Unless the problem is of the utmost simplicity expect some kind of snafu. The service companies being used are subpar and this stems from AHS being late paying (this feedback from a reputable company who had worked as a provider). AHS needs to shape up. They also need to add an email address to their "Contact Me" site.

In Dec. we had a plumbing issue. Called AHS and they sent someone out. They fixed the problem but left the hole in the ceiling where they had to access the pipes. They said they would send someone out to finish the repair. No one ever came back. Called AHS twice now and the contractor keeps telling AHS they fixed it. Today I called and now the contractor is saying they were confused as to what was left to do. Really? AHS should have called another vendor to get my repair work done asap. It's now mid-February and I still have a hole in my ceiling which continues to cause my heating bill to go up! I've heated my attic now for 2 months! I am extremely disappointed in AHS. Never had this experience in the years I've been with them. Is something going on at AHS?
Hello, Lori. I apologize that this has not been taken care of on your behalf. Generally, the technician calls us to advise on how many holes were made and at what size they are. That would then drive us to send out a contractor to cover the hole to a rough finish. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist you with resolution.

AHS is good customer service-wise. My only concern is that the people or companies they are using don't have enough experience. A perfect example was when I had a water leak from the ceiling and I called it in. I asked them to find out where the water leak was coming from. The first guys said it was the grouting. But another guy came in and said it was a pipe leak. When I called AHS, I told them that it was a pipe leak and it should have been covered under the warranty.
But then the guy called and American Home Shield asked if he was sure it was a pipe leak because the previous guy said it's a grouting. The guy then said, "It might be a grouting then." Finally, I had to take care of everything by myself. It had been going on for three months. Also, when my heater was not working, I filed the claim over the phone and the customer service rep was very helpful. But the guy who came was kind of under-experienced because every time he needed to get something done, he was calling and asking what he should do or what was what. He didn't know what he was doing.
I wouldn't renew my service with AHS. I have the service with them because if something goes wrong, I need somebody taking care of it if not right away, at least next day or following day. But with my air conditioning that was not working, they told me that they would have someone there the next month. I asked what I was supposed to do with the whole three weeks, but they said that was all they had. The same thing happened to the heating. I would not recommend them.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have a leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

There was water gushing out of the furnace so I called American Home Shield. The problem was due to a humidifier that was on the furnace. The contractor said that it wasn’t covered because it wasn’t actually a part of the furnace. I just turned the humidifier off and it’s not functioning anymore. But when my stove broke and they couldn't find a part, they replaced it. They have been good in that department so I can't complain too much. I also had a dryer repaired and I can't believe that they spend so much money on parts as well as two or three visits rather than just replacing something. But it's working now.
My biggest concern is getting in touch with them via the phone. But when I finally get in touch with them their reps have been extremely polite, professional and helpful. I just got a card in the mail yesterday so I’m going to try and start submitting claims online so that I don’t have to be on hold for hours at a time. I renewed my plan for the year and I’m just wondering if I can cancel it at any time since my homeowner’s insurance would actually cover more than American Home Shield if I add a rider to it. I still think American Home Shield have done a good job. It’s just the communication part of it that’s difficult.

American Home Shield never covers anything. Contractors would, more often than not, come out and say one of two things. One, "That isn’t covered, but we’ll be happy to fix it for you for so and so number of dollars.” Or two, “Nothing’s wrong with it.” I usually submit claims over the phone and submitted one for our General Electric oven, which was not heating properly. The tech came out and said that the motherboard needed to be replaced. They replaced the motherboard but did not cure the problem. They came back out, tested the oven, and said everything was fine. It was not and never has been. The oven does not heat to the required temperature. In other words, I’m crazy, but they’re not. There has been a couple or three claims that I’ve had also had problems with. I haven't had much good experience with American Home Shield and I’d recommend others to check other available service companies.

I had to call American Home Shield again because they’ve been emailing and sending me a letter which I understood already before but the one thing that I want them to pay attention is that my water heater needs some attention. And they’ve been telling me “No, your faucet is not included in your claim.” I said that I am done with that.
Somebody came over just for plumbing and then they did some adjustment but the faucet is still leaking. I understand that the faucet is not part of the claim but I said, “I have another item that has been checked with this plumbing company and up to now, it’s been a matter of two weeks to three weeks now that they haven’t gotten back to me." I called them already one time and I said, “I understand about the process. I’m not talking about the faucet now. I’m talking about the water heater.” And they said, “We’ll call the plumber and ask them what was done on the water heater.” So up to now I haven’t received anything yet.
The contractor apparently will not contact me, not until American Home Shield talked to them. And I’m waiting for American Home Shield to let me know that they have contacted the plumber and then they’re going to discuss about the water heater. So I’m planning to call American Home Shield again to touch base with them about the water heater claim that I have.
They sent contractors here twice. I did two claims with them. With the dryer claim as soon as they called in, somebody came and looked at the dryer and then after some days they came back and put different thermostat but I noticed that the dryer was not drying the clothes at one time. We had to rerun it. So I called them again and they sent the appliance people again and they looked at it and said that the dryer is working fine. But up to this time we have to rerun the dryer again to complete the drying of the clothes. Also we’ve been with them for a long time and the price is really getting exceedingly high now. We started with 49, now it’s 75.

The most recent claim was for my heating service and the contractors came out explaining to me exactly what was going on and fixed the problem. Things has been working fine since the repair.
American Home Shield did a great job. They always answer the phone if I had any calls and keep me up-to-date on the status of my order and comes out right away as soon as I need them. The toilet in my downstairs guest bathroom didn't work correctly. My husband and I are 74 and 73 years old, and we don’t use a computer so we have to call directly and it takes over an hour to get through American Home Shield unless I call at 8:30 in the morning where I am on hold for about 15 minutes. I put up with it because if I need American Home Shield, then I don’t have any other choice. I understand most of the people in the world use the computer and the internet now, but there are still some older people that don’t.
The contractor who came for the plumbing issue scratched up the whole toilet with the stick that he used. The house is only four years old and I was upset so I called American Home Shield and they sent him again to fix the scratches. It's okay now, maybe 95%. People have been here before from American Home Shield. When I ended up with water damage coming down the walls, I called American Home Shield and they fixed it. They also came to fix the bathroom in the master’s bedroom. I have no problem at all with American Home Shield and I will continue to use them. And if the company came to anything about the amount of time that we stay on the line, I would be immensely grateful. I’m very happy and I’ll continue to renew my contract.

I noticed our tub was leaking. The contractor American Home Shield sent came out and looked and changed something. They said that I needed to re-caulk the tub a little bit and I haven’t finished redoing that. And they went on and off and cleaned. I guess I had some slow drainage on some other sinks. I recently just bought this house about a year ago so that’s where I ended up with American Home Shield and they resolved my slow drainage stuff.
But it takes forever to get them on the phone and then you wait forever when you’re on hold waiting to talk to somebody. It can be 20 minutes or 30 minute. Sometimes you’re just sitting there and just waiting and waiting. But the reps were friendly. The contractors were fine. They were much better than the first ones that I had. I had another plumbing issue earlier in the last year and those people I actually requested that I did not want them back. I wanted somebody else.
The people itself weren’t very efficient, and they tell me it’s going to be this and that and they would turn around and I would have to wait. There was this part that they needed and it took two weeks for them to get this part. But I get along with them really well, it’s just that the experience with them was terrible. That was the deal with them. My contract with AHS ends in November and I’m probably not going to renew with them because of my ceiling fan issue.
I signed up and extended my thing for another year after the first year because we talked about stuff and they said “Yeah, we will replace with the same thing and equivalent of what you have” or whatever if something breaks. My ceiling fans are not most top of the line but they’re not the most basic ceiling fans, neither. I had issues, an electrician came out and said “Oh, I think that’s the receivers in there and they need to be replaced but they’re not under warranty for the manufacturer," or whatever.
And so, “Well, I can replace it but it’s a very basic ceiling fan.” And I’m talking about “basic” basic. Like a white, basic fan. And I’m like “Well, my ceiling fan is not the white, basic fan here and that’s not the equivalent of what I have.” And American Home Shield says, “Well you can deny it and we can give you $75 bucks.” Well, $75 bucks is not going to pay for my ceiling fan, either. If they’re only going to give me $75, okay, that’s fine. I’ll go with that, I’ll take $75. I’ll pay the extra for the rest of the ceiling fan. Give me the $75, let me go buy the same thing with it and have your contractor come back out and at least install it.
Because if I would have said, “Oh yeah, I installed the cheap one,” they would install the cheap one in and I wouldn’t have gotten charged an extra labor charge. They’re saying, “Well, if you take the $75 you got to go buy your own ceiling fan then you’d have to pay to have someone install it." I told them to send the $75 and I took care of it on my own. I ended up looking on the internet to see how to replace it and how to do it but then they said, “If you want your new ceiling fans under warranty, you have to have it professionally installed and send us the receipts saying that you did it and then we’re warrantying them again.” I’m like “If I just put it in myself and those ceiling fans won’t be under warranty.” I got a refrigerator in the garage and I said “Oh, if you want to add that refrigerator." They said it’ll be $15 more to my plan and if it ever breaks down they will replace it with the equivalent of what I have.
I’m thinking now, the equivalent of the ceiling fan wasn’t the same one they were going to give me and the one in the garage wasn’t anything fancy or nothing like that but what are they going to give me like this little bitty box on the floor? The equivalent is not the equivalent is what I see. They got stuff fixed but I’m not happy totally with them. At this time I would say don’t go with them. I wouldn’t. Go for them if it’s minor stuff. But if you’re going to have any refrigerators, stoves, or electronics of any sort or ceiling fans I would not think about using them for that.

Something went wrong with my heater and it wouldn’t cut off. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. This time I just went online to submit it. I tried to do it over the phone and they put me on hold forever. And the time before that, I did submit a claim and it took me two hours on the phone to get through. And when I got through the first time after an hour, they hung up on me. And so, I called them back, waited another hour, and finally got some results.
Recently, the contractors AHS sent have been okay. I’ve had no issues with them. The time before the claim with the heater, it was the air conditioner and they fixed a fan to the condenser. And then last time with the heater, the contractor diagnosed it and had to special order a part. Then they came back in a week after they got the part and repaired it. It was okay. It didn’t cost that much. I paid $75 and got the thing fixed. I could’ve got it fixed by somebody else, but it would’ve cost me a lot more. So, I just waited the week. The good thing was that it didn’t get real cold so we were lucky that when it did go out, it wasn’t that bad.
AHS is good for people. It helped me out and they fixed whatever was wrong. However, I had an issue with them last year. My refrigerator wasn’t under warranty so I called to add my refrigerator and they said there was an open window around March, I would have to call back. So I called back on March and had them added my refrigerator. So last year when my refrigerator went out, I called them. They said I never did call. That was just odd to me that I added my refrigerator and then they said that I didn’t. They couldn't help me so I had to buy a new refrigerator. I was going to cancel it at that time, but I didn’t. And I'm glad I didn’t because that saved me some money with the air conditioner issue.

However, the first guy that American Home Shield sent couldn’t do both jobs so we had to wait for the electrician. Hopefully, next time, American Home Shield just send one person to fix both items and I won’t have to wait.
It took about a month to get the issue fixed. But the process could be a little bit shorter. When you don’t have heat, everything is crucial. We shouldn’t have to wait so long to get service done when something is an emergency. And I know they have to reach out to the contractors but then that’s a whole other 24 to 72 hours. They know what’s going on with the system and fix it easily. The only time I ever had to actually wait for a couple of days to get it completed was when they came and diagnosed it. It was for the upstairs about two or three years ago and they had to order a major part that they didn’t have in stock. And it took about three days to get in. But, as soon as they got it in, they got installed and everything was working fine.
And when submitting a claim, I always do it over the phone and the representatives are always very helpful. They're polite and try to work with me and get the contractor that I want to use. I like to talk to a live person when I call for a problem because, that way, I can get Air Medics to come work on my system because they’re the people that maintained it anyway and they’re already familiar with it. Other than that, I wouldn’t have a problem doing the claim submission online. If I don’t talk to a live person, then I can’t ask for a particular contractor. I recommend AHS. The problem with American Home Shield is you can't get through to them if there is any change. They always say they're busy, and that's absolutely horrible. We have a great big living room on the first floor and we have a heat pump on that unit. That room was freezing cold and the heater was having a hard time keeping up. My furnace was making a really loud noise and the gas pipe that goes into the furnace was rattling real bad. It scared me. But come to find out, the way my furnace is set up, you slide the filter on the side. Apparently, one of the old filter pieces broke off from it and it got up in the fan. That was causing it to shake real bad. The contractor who came was professional. At first, he thought he was going to have to replace fan mode. But when he looked at it carefully, he saw a piece of paper sticking out the fan. And that's where the filter part came from. After he poured it out, it stopped. So, the guy was real good. If I ever have any problems, I would love for him to come back again. It was an easy repair and I paid $75 for it.
I've always had a good turnout except for one incident with the young guy that came in. I called AHS out because I had a leak in my tub area and in my sink. And the contractor, probably with same age as my daughter, was like, "Oh, this was put in the wrong way that's why it's leaking. This is not properly done." So, he wouldn't fix the leak and wanted to charge us $200 or $300 for it. That pissed me off 'cause why am I paying for insurance when it's not fixed and when I got problems. But other than that, I haven't had any issues. Since then, I've had both my bathrooms redone.
I’ve had AHS for years. I've been in this house now for 19 years. The owner bought the warranty when we first bought the house. After that, I was paying for it. And then, my husband cooked it up into our mortgage. And so, it's been without mortgage up until I paid the household. And since I paid the household, now, I'm paying for it out of my pocket. When submitting claims, the process is easy but I had to learn again because my husband who always prepared that passed away. I started online but I had a stroke, so I get confused when I read stuff. So, I just got the number and call them. I normally have to wait on hold, but it wasn't long. And I tell everybody about AHS. I told my brother's girlfriend who just bought a house, "You don't want to be in this house without this home warranty."

Sometimes, my experience with AHS is good. But nine times out of ten, it’s not. I’ve been with them for over 20 years because I have some rental properties and I’m too good of a customer for them to have me wait. I understand running a business and I know they have to be careful, but they should fix problems and not put a band-aid on them.
Sometimes, I get people out and they’d fix my problem. Other times, I have to wait for them to order a part. I could wait for weeks, especially with the air conditioner. We’re here in Texas and it’s hot. I just shudder when we’re in the summer because I know that if there’s an air conditioning problem, we would have to wait because they would have to order the part. I don’t know where they get their part or how long it takes, but when I call another AC guy and ask, I'm told they have the part and it's not a part that's hard to get.
I question why it's so hard for American Home Shield to get the part because it’s almost like they’re forcing me to find somebody else to fix the problem instead of using them. It’s like they’re dragging out the repairing part of it. And I’ve invested. I may go for years and not even call American Home Shield for a repair so they’re making money off of me and I feel that. I haven’t called them to come fix something in a couple of years but when I do, it needs to be fixed.
When I had a plumbing issue where the shower was dripping. A tech came in, didn't even look at anything then said, “American Home Shield is not going to honor this, but I can fix this for you.” It would cost me somewhere around $600 and it had to do with pressure. I told the person he didn't even look at what the issue was, was not even been here five minutes and was already making that statement. I called AHS and told them I was going to get a second opinion. I called another company, had them come in and check the water pressure. The guy told me I didn't have a problem there.
What happened was that the contractors, if they are not getting paid by American Home Shield, they are trying to make some money. I got hit with a $75 service fee but the technician didn’t fix anything. We are affected by the techs because they’ll come out and say something is not covered and we're stuck there with them. We end up asking if they could fix the problem instead and then we're paying what we shouldn’t have to pay. Having rental properties for over 30 years, I know what it costs to fix something.
I’ve talked to a lot of their techs and a lot of them leave because they say that AHS is slow and they don’t pay on time. I had an AC guy come out who used to work with them and he said AHS doesn't want them to fix the problem. They want the contractor to put band-aids on the problem and then if the contractor fixes it, they put them at the end of the line as a tech. If a tech is saying all those things, how does that not affect me as the customer? AHS needs to look at that. I was also in real estate with Ebby Halliday and I was told by them that they would no longer be recommending American Home Shield. That’s another thing that AHS needs to look at because there’s a reason for that. But I’m sticking with AHS because I’ve been with them for a long time.
We got summer coming up and I take very good care of my properties. I have good tenants too so there is not a lot of abuse going on with things. But we have an air conditioner and it’s getting old and it may need to be serviced. If the compressor goes out, then AHS should fix it. I paid enough in. Techs shouldn't come in and tell me they have to order a part and it’s a 100 degrees here. But those negative experiences aside, I had two instances where two technicians came over to fix a property, one was a plumber and one was an electrician. They both did a great job and I was very pleased with that. I hope AHS would keep them because they were professional and they knew what they were doing. As far as my experience in the past though, they were not that great.
I would like to thank you for being a customer of AHS for over 20 years. I most certainly understand your frustration with AHS and the delay in service you have experienced to have issues resolve but most importantly the delay when repairing AC issues.

Ever since I bought the house in 2013, I've been using AHS. Their coverage is better than the other company that didn't cover my well pump, any parts of my above-ground pool and garbage disposal. And it took me about an hour to cancel with this other company. It was about $30 cheaper with them and American Home Shield is $75, which it went up about a year and a half ago. But Home Shield has been good with the problems I've had. And the contractors are good. They come in and work on the problem. They tell me what was wrong with it and say to give them a call again if I got any problems with it. They call me to tell me what day and what time they're coming. And they're usually on the time. It's usually about a three- or four-hour slot.
It’s just that sometimes when trying to reach AHS back, I’m on the phone for a while. And if I hang up and call them back, I start it all over again. But lately when I called in for the repair, they've been maybe three minutes at the most, and they pick up. It's improved quite a lot. I have a dishwasher that holds on heavy load, goes through the cycles and doesn’t move. They came out and put a part in. But about three days later, it goes the same thing. The first time, I had trouble getting a hold of Home Shield. They told me who to call. They said they'd call within 24 hours but the people repairing it didn't call within 24 hours.
And I called Home Shield back and had to wait on the phone about an hour to talk to somebody. And they said, "Well, it's 48 hours." I said, "That's not what you told me. You told me 24 hours." But they came out the next day. And that's when we thought they had it fixed. Then I had them back again. And this is the third trip coming back. The dishwasher is not that old. It's less than three years old. They'll be back tomorrow and I had to call them again.

I have a side-by-side 7-feet ref and the freezer compartment was not working. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was fine and I got referred to a contractor right away. But the contractor said that they could not come out for four days and that was a little disappointing. When they came out, they said that the freezer needed some valve and they had to order it. It took a week for that valve to come in and when it did, I had them scheduled again. But the valve didn’t work so I had to call AHS again and a second contractor was able to fix it. The first contractors were professional and they did their best. But the second people knew what they were doing and were better. They identified that I needed a new compressor and it would've been a very costly repair if I did not have a home warranty so I'm thankful about that.
In the end, everything worked and I was happy. The performance of the freezer now is fantastic and it's like I have a new refrigerator. However, my claim was drawn out and I did not have a freezer for about eight weeks. That was a long time to get it resolved. Still, American Home Shield has been great and I would recommend them particularly to those buying a house that is as old as mine because things break. I just wish that my contract number would not change each year of renewal. It's like getting a whole new policy each year.

My under-the-counter microwave recently went out so I called American Home Shield wherein I had to put prompts in to confirm the different dates. The contractor they sent out was wonderful. He came at the time he said he was going to. He had the part on the truck and got the repair done. Since the repair, my microwave has been working and I’m quite pleased.
I've been with American Home Shield for several years but that was the first time that I’ve used them that they actually came out and did the work. Because one time, I called them for my washing machine and the person never showed up. Then when I called back, AHS said they called the contractor who said I wasn’t here but that wasn't true. And then, I made another appointment. He showed up and I told them to cancel the service. But they still wanted to charge me. I told them I was not paying for something that they didn’t do. Other than that, I've gotten people to get American Home Shield.

I had to make multiple calls. They’re not good with customer service. I haven't and will never use their online system to file a claim. I expect better service than a computer that you never know what’s going to happen. It was like the summer before when I had an issue with the air-conditioner, and the technician they sent was as bad as they were. They got it resolved after 30 days. If there was another option for me to get the insurance, I would change tomorrow.

Our Kenmore dishwasher stopped working right after Christmas dinner. Has been in contact since then. They have assigned an appliance company, they have already changed 3 different parts, 4 different visits. Over 50 calls to set up appointments. Today the technician visited again and after changing 2 new parts states it is still not work and he has to order another piece. So I will be without dishwasher for another few weeks and it is not even sure this new piece will work. Looks like I am being put in a position where I will have no choice than buying a new unit on my own. This is exactly what torture is. This is taking a toll emotionally on me. The appliance company is not reachable easily either. It takes forever to get them here. How much patience AHS wants from customers? Meanwhile appliance company is charging also AHS for their time.
Also AHS has to pay for all these parts so basically AHS prefers all these costs and also torturing customer by the contractors until customer gives up and says they do not want the pain anymore and have to replace a unit on their own. "Wrong" This is "Wrong". Why bother warranty for appliances when it is clear that the game is to disappoint you. They even do not care about who they send, because it is so difficult to get to talk to anyone at this contractor. I just called AHS and asked to talk to manager. The operator has to submit a form and I have to wait for someone to call back until tomorrow.
I am not being unreasonable, at least I think so. I am thinking that dishes I can hand wash for over month and half, if this was let's say refrigerator or cloth washer then what! There is no way that one can be out of appliance for this long. There should be some time limit on how long AHS and contractor can drag this. Or at least how many pieces and how many visits can be done with no results. AHS should stand behind what they sell and help customer resolve the issues as reasonable as possible in a timely manner.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your dishwasher repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience as soon as possible.

We suddenly had pipe leaks under our house. This was on a Saturday. We immediately put in a request online for service on the American Home Shield website. Because it was a Saturday there would be no response until Monday. Our request was forwarded to the local plumbing company. When we contacted that local plumbing company they said they were not able to send someone out until the end of February. It's February 6th so that is not acceptable. We called AHS and they said that another company would contact us.
Mind you, we have mentioned that we feel this is an emergency because we have no hot and cold running water. We are not happy with the way we are being treated by both AHS and our local plumbing companies. We feel that the local plumbing company just does not want to deal with our problem because it is a home warranty situation. We feel that they probably lose money on home warranty calls so they are not going to give them priority no matter if the problem is an emergency.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service to have the pipe repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve the issue.

My furnace is old and not as efficient as it should be. My friend works with furnaces and he thought that it was giving out some carbon monoxide. I called American Home Shield to make a claim but since the furnace was working fine, I put it off for a while. The tech called us to make an appointment and I didn’t answer. So, they took the claim off the books which was fine because it was after about three weeks. Then when I called in again, the claim was not there anymore but it was not a big deal as they just made another one. The person that AHS sent reassured us that the furnace was still fine. He used two different measurement meters and showed us. He was very good at explaining and we knew him from our air conditioner issues, too. I would recommend AHS especially for a house that's 30 years old because if something in it hasn’t already been replaced, it is ready to be.

I always tell everybody that they should get American Home Shield because it's way cheaper to carry that insurance than to go out and buy one appliance. Recently, I filed a claim for my washing machine over the phone. The drum broke and fell down. The representative, who was very nice, wrote it down and sent somebody out here. When the contractor came, he called and got here on time. He got the stuff done and then he was gone. They sent out a local contractor so I didn't have to wait for two weeks. And since the washer would cost more to repair than to replace it, they bought me a new one. And it didn't take long at all. Once they found the contractor couldn't repair it, I called them the following Monday and I bought a new one and sent the receipt in, and I already got my check for it.

The people who came out for my most recent claim were excellent. They did a good job and took care of the issue. But it took a long time to get the claim in this time. I called American Home Shield and it took some time to get through, which may be because we had a bad ice storm in the Houston area and they could have been very busy. This was the first time it took so long to get the call in and then it took exactly two days before anybody called me. That should have been done within 24 hours. If I call at 8:00, I would like to know something at 5:00 so I can fix my schedule to work. But I know it had a lot to do with the ice freeze in Houston and a lot of pipes probably eroded. The plumbers were very busy so I do understand that. At times, I also have issues with the second damages in certain things they don’t cover. But overall, it’s good.

The contractor called me the first day that night and the next day, he was there. I liked him and he was very nice. Also, he's very professional. He went down the drain and snaked out something from the toilet. Having a warranty on my property is very good because if something breaks down, they fix it. But I have one problem. I had a furnace replaced a couple of years ago, 2015, and I ended up paying almost $15,000 for it. I checked around and I could've got it a whole lot cheaper. The furnace was almost 20 years old. American Home Shield has the automated system when submitting claims, which is good. It's really not that hard to do it whether via telephone or online. Both seem to get you the same solution in the same amount of time. It works and it's effective. The last time I submitted a claim was when our pool pump was leaking. The seals were coming loose and they needed to be refitted and retightened. They sent a gentleman out that did the work. They worked and that was good. They were pretty responsive.
I've had AHS for two or three years and I'm satisfied with them. I've only had one issue with them where I had to submit a Better Business Bureau complaint because I felt that I was getting the runaround and it never ended up getting resolved in my favor. I called American Home Shield for my water heater, and the rep asked me what was wrong. He was friendly and got right on it. They said they were going to have a company come out and see what was going on with it. They thought it was a little slow leak. We noticed it when we came home. A little paint that sits on it was starting to fill up. When my husband came home, he realized it was leaking. He thought that the water heater was going out. But we weren’t sure. We also thought something was just loose. But when the guy came and inspected it, he said it would need to be replaced. It took a week or so before he came back to replace it. He was great though. He said it would take about two or three hours to replace it but he did it less than that.
Everything’s fine. The only problem I have is he probably turned it down, and partly we turned it up just a notch. I have two bathrooms. The water gets hot in one of them, and then in the other one, the water gets hot but it doesn’t stay hot that long. Nevertheless, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to a couple of people and family members have already signed up. I tell them it’s a great service. Without a home warranty, if something breaks down you got to pay out of pocket one time. It gets costly and expensive so might as well just go and pay the monthly fees with American Home Shield. Some people would say that’s not really worth it. But I had a problem with my air-conditioning unit and the contractor came out and fixed it. If you have the money saved up then you don’t have to worry about getting it done. But when you look at $1,200 to get something done one time, it's costly.

I've been happy with AHS. I had recommended them to my children because the good thing that about them is that I don’t have to look and find a plumber or whoever. They have somebody ready. The only thing is that they seem to have a different way of billing now. I've always paid a year in advance but this time, I didn't. We got a dishwasher and we’re babying it because I like it. We’re trying to hold ourselves right, but it is wearing out. The repairman tried to fix it but he didn’t quite get it done. But he looked it over, and he was willing to help. Then I called AHS because the dryer wasn’t heating. The repairman came but we had to call AHS back so in the meantime, he asked me if I had any other appliances that needed checking. I told him that my refrigerator had a broken shelf, and I appreciated that AHS covered it when I called it in. I loved it.
So I got all three things for the same deductible, which was amazing. I saved up a huge value. Since the repair, the appliances are good so far. It’s a good service but they need to hire more girls. I've recommended AHS and two people have bought it. It’s $49 a month, and people pay for insurance. That amount is budgetable and it is not a bit chunk of change.

I have insurance for when my big appliances go down, like the washer, dryer, and fridge. Over the last few years, American Home Shield's service fee has gone up sky high which I’m not happy about but I’m going to keep going with it for this year and I’ll see next year whether I want to continue with that. When I first started with them, it was 50 dollars per service call which made it really worthwhile to call them when I had stuff to do because it was a lot cheaper than getting anybody else in to repair. But now, the service call is 75 dollars and that’s a lot. Still, I would tell others about them. The older your appliances, the more you’re going to need them.
The last claim I had with AHS was for the fridge. One of the lines on the inside froze and the water was getting to the ice maker but not to the water dispenser. I submitted the claim online because I hate phones. Plus, it was easier and faster to do it online. Their website was pretty easy to use and if they needed any other information, they called me back. The contractor called me very soon after they got the notice and I gave them all the information, so that when the guy got here, he knew exactly what was wrong and what he had to do. He got the line defrosted and cleaned it out. Also, if he needed a part, he had it. Not all of them do that so many of the contractors would just come out and say they got to do this and that, then they order a part and say it's going to be another week. This one didn’t do that and he was really good to which I was very grateful. Since then, the fridge has been working great and it’s right back to normal.

I just go to the website and punch my problem in. The site is not difficult to navigate too. When we called them because something began to tear up, they had someone out the next 24 hours looking at it.
Their contractors have been friendly too. They ask questions, go from the problem, and check and make sure. All of them fixed exactly what was wrong and they made sure that nothing else could activate that problem. Their repairs saved me a lot of money. AHS is a really good company and experience that I had with them, I wouldn't change anything for the world. I don't have to go to my insurance company every time something needs to be fixed. He replaced the filter but it actually was something else. And it wasn't till that second call he was able to fix it, which is fine. It took him about 30 minutes for everything to be repaired. The heater is now working well.
I also had some plumbing issues and AHS sent someone. They had to go outside the wall and fix it from the wall. They did a very minimal fix in the hole that they had created. They didn't bring it back up to the standard or how it looked before. They have put one layer of drywall on it but it takes three layers so I had to pay to have the other two layers put on and have it painted. That's the only complaint I have about them. Unfortunately, it's not something that's covered by the AHS contract. Hopefully, I don't have to use AHS very often. But as far as filing a claim through the website, they were responsive. They're also affordable and I would recommend them.

We woke up one morning and the temperature was 50 degrees in the house. The furnace wasn’t working and that was right when the cold snap started. My husband put the claim in online and then he called to make sure it was in the queue. It was only 7:30 when Jerry called us to set up a time to come. He’s done other work for us so we were acquainted with him. He tried a couple of things to fix the furnace but it didn’t work. It wouldn’t stay on for long periods of time. It would kick off, and then all of a sudden, it would come on and we would have the space heaters on then. It was interesting.
We finally had to bite the bullet and go with a new furnace. But they couldn’t get the furnace as quickly as it would have been prudent for us. The problem happened the week before New Year’s Day, on Tuesday and Jerry ordered it by Thursday. We were hoping that it would be here on the following Tuesday but it didn’t come until the following week after that. But we survived. Between the furnace intermittently working and the space heaters that we had, it was okay as long as it didn’t get to be really cold, which for the most part, it was really cold. But it worked out fine. We’re really happy with the furnace we have. We had to spend some money but American Home Shield took care of the majority of it. We were also real pleased with Jerry's work.
I just wish American Home Shield would cover checking out the furnace in the seasons, like checking the air conditioner in the spring and then the furnace in the fall. That would be nice because there were plenty of years that we didn’t have any claims. This was the first claim we had for maybe six years. Other than that, we’ve been very pleased with their service and we’ve had American Home Shield for 20 years between the different houses.

We filed a plumbing claim over the disposal to American Home Shield via the phone. The rep we spoke to was good, and the contractor knew what he was doing. I told him I had an odd size disposal. I told him upfront what size I had and he brought the right one. Otherwise, he would have come out and had to go back to get another and then come back. So, that worked out well. That was the second time I've used the company. The first experience was over our washing machine that went out, and it was a little rough as the contractor they sent was not good - he did not know what he was doing and was back and forth. I ended up taking the cash and just bought what we wanted, but it took us a while to get through that first deal. It was too complicated for them trying to figure out what we could get because they did not have the exact washer that we needed or wanted.

I’m glad I have American Home Shield. It’s a good company to have the home insurance with. They’re fair. They come out and repair stuff and they honor their contract fairly well. When my washing machine stopped working, I called them and the person I spoke with was very good. They have good customer service. Also, my son said the contractor was very nice. Since the repair, my washing machine runs really nice and I’m able to wash my clothes.

I most recently had to submit a claim to American Home Shield because the air conditioner was not catching up with the heat and submitting was good but most of the time, I have a wait call. During the weekend or afternoon, it's very hard to talk to a rep because of the prolonged wait but I don't have any problem during the weekday around morning and the noon. And the reps are very helping. They listen and they find the company right away who can work on it. The contractors are also very good. The experience has been excellent and I'm very satisfied.

It’s my luck this year out of 15 years that I had a problem with American Home Shield. On December 31st I called for emergency, heating pump first. And then soon after that I found out from the tenant that there was a water leakage in my property. I called back and then I reported that also on the same day. From then, it went downhill. The United Air Temp people came in. The guy who came in to fix the valve where it was leaking said he didn’t have the part. The next day was a holiday, January 1st, and he was going to come back on the 2nd. By Tuesday, he couldn’t make it because he said that they didn’t give him an appointment. I’ve been calling American Home Shield every single day, maybe twice a day, which I was also irritated with because each phone call to get through American Home Shield took about an hour and a half to two hours.
By Tuesday my homeowners association came in and shut down the water because it was causing a lot of damage to the two units below me. So, I called and reported that to American Home Shield. They sent United Air again on Wednesday. When the guy arrived, he said it was not replaceable. At that time United Air sent me an email saying, “This is not repairable. It needs to be replaced.”
I called them back again, and I said, “Listen. This is an emergency. It’s causing a lot of issues. The two units below me are severely damaged. I need someone ASAP.” The weather was in a single digit. The people at my unit had a dual function, so when they shut down, not only did they not have heat during that cold time, but also, they did not have hot water going into the property. They had an infant in the property and I reported that to them. I also told American Home Shield that I would take out a cash option because when I called United Air, they said it might take three to five days depending if they had the part. I told them I didn't have that time.
When the homeowners association people reached out to me about the shutdown, someone had somebody else there that could come in the next day and be able to repair it. I specifically called American Home Shield and said, “Give me the cash out option because this has to be fixed ASAP. I cannot have any more damage to the property. We’re still not addressing the heating pump.” They said no and that they still had to send someone out for verification. They said they were not going to pay me if I had somebody else touch it. I had called every single day after that wanting to talk to the manager. For the last two weeks, it was a headache between calling United Air and American Home Shield. And I had been saying, “Get me a manager.” They would tell me, “We don’t have a manager available. Someone will call you within 24 to 48 hours.”
What really frustrated me about this whole thing was my heating pump took two weeks to be delivered and to be replaced. It was reported on the 31st. They came and fixed it on the 12th because they said the part had to be ordered. If there is an emergency, they should assist. I specifically told them if United Air could not do it, they should send me another person.
With the washing machine, I ended up having to take $200 because one company came in and touched it and didn’t put it back together. They said it was too much work and they couldn't deal with it. So, they had to send another company. That company came in and said they could not touch it because somebody else didn’t put it together. And then they sent it over to another people to put it in. A third company had to come and verify. I had to go through the ordering and everything for a whole month. I paid my $200 for the renters because someone did not know who they were sending. If they couldn't handle the job, they should not have been sent to begin with.
Our washing machine took one month to be replaced and this was with the same tenant. Now, for the month of January, they refused to pay. They only paid half of the rent. I’m left with a tenant who doesn’t want to pay me for their rent and with the damage of two units below me. And that’s not fair for me. That assistant should’ve been there to have someone to just give me the cash out options. I needed to do what I needed to do to resolve a lot of the issues. Now, this is going to end up in a court, because they don’t want to pay. Not only am I left with the damage and everything, but I have a tenant who wants to sue me because this was not resolved in a timely manner.
Hiwoto, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

I had a stopped up drain at my garbage disposal. I submitted a claim over the phone and everything went fine. The contractor came right out and got rid of the clog. Everything was perfect and I had absolutely no issues.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone for an issue with our oven. It was literally impossible to call their contractor during business hours. We attempted for four days to make contact with them and the phone was continually busy. I have spoken with other people that had the same contractor and they said the same thing. The ability to communicate was frustrating. Nonetheless, their contractors were very courteous, and they knew what they were doing. They came out, did their thing and I was very pleased with the outcome. The oven is working properly now and I’m a happy camper. I just had to put a $100 deductible on a card that we had on file with AHS.

I was having trouble with the toilet. It wasn’t flushing properly, and also, it was rocking. I submitted a claim and AHS sent out a company, JK Plumbing. The experience was not good, and in fact, he didn’t do the work. He told me, “I can’t fix it”. I said “Well then, fine, goodbye.” So, I called JK Plumbing and they gave me the runaround. I called American Home Shield and I asked for Lex’s Plumbing who has done work for me before, and is on their list. I had to wait several days, a week or so, to get Lex’s Plumbing to come and take care of me. They came and they did a great job. It probably didn’t take them 30 minutes, and they were out of there. Also, they were fine, very polite and clean, and did exactly what they’re supposed to do. My advice to AHS is to take JK Plumbing off their list and not use them, because I’m not the only person that I’ve heard complain about them. Everything's been good with American Home Shield nevertheless.

I was surprised that American Home Shield charged so much considering that we have a plan. I filed a claim on my water heater that stopped warming up. The plumber came at 7:00 in the morning and I had to get up early for that. He was good but then he didn’t have the second element that he needed so I had to wait another day and I had to wake up early again. So we did not have hot water from Sunday to Wednesday. It's a 2005 heater so the parts are getting harder to find. But, it saved the company a lot of money that he could fix it because, otherwise, they would have to replace it. Since the repair, the heater has been very good -- it is scalding hot. Being that I couldn't get service the same day, that didn’t satisfy me too much. I thought they'd come 24 hours a day but they didn’t. As AHS is expensive, I'm trying to figure whether it's cheaper not to have them and have my problem fixed by hiring my own plumber.

The flapper valve in the toilet was impossible to operate and test. It was very hard and sticky and we broke the knob at one point. I submitted a claim for that as well as the faucet in the master bedroom shower. Navigating through the American Home Shield website is easy. However, the selections are fairly generic and can't go into detail. I clicked the box that says faucet or the box that says toilet but it doesn't ask what's wrong with it. The toilet handle could be broken or it's the wax ring that is leaking, which are two different jobs for a plumbing guy, and he's not going to know that based on what's submitted on the website. Other than that, the contractor who came out was great. Now, taking a shower is a lot easier and enjoyable and the fixed toilet saves water. Also, on the first call that I put in for the kitchen faucet, the plumber told me that the cartridge to fix the faucet was $85. I paid $75, so it was a good deal. Overall, everything's fine and I'm happy.

We had some pipes that exploded and we've had some washer issues. I submitted a claim online, which I like to use since I don't have to talk to one of reps from American Home Shield. And submitting online is usually the easiest way. Things get sketchy when I have to talk to somebody. We had an issue where we were out of water and the plumber was there and he was prepared to fix two separate problems that were related. We didn't know about the other problem and it was keeping us from getting our water on.
The only reason why we didn't call the first time and tell them about the second problem was that we didn't know it existed until they came out for the first problem. So American Home Shield wouldn't authorize the fixing of the second problem without going through the process of a whole other set of paperwork. We got really upset. The plumber can fix it while he was here and we can have water. But instead, they made us argue and yell at them and everybody was unhappy. It was uncalled for. We even told them that we don't mind paying the extra fee to fix the problem at that time. But the problem ended up not being fixed, which should have been fixed from the get-go.
I ended up filing another claim and they made a big deal about it. We had to wait for 48 hours to file a new claim, let the plumber fix the one problem that we first filed a claim for, and we still had no water. He would have to leave, come back in 48 hours to fix the other part and then we would get to have water. American Home Shield is a necessary service but sometimes it's a pain.

I’ve had American Home Shield since 2003. I’ve had a garage go out before and the part wasn’t covered so I had to come out of pocket. I paid the deductible, the fee plus out of pocket for the service. This year, I had the same part go out in the garage and I had to come out of pocket again plus the $75 deductible. And that has left me a little sour because it was the exact same part and it wasn’t covered. I’m up for renewal and I was really having a hard time with renewing because I have another home warranty on the property that I live in. AHS is for our rental property and I'm contemplating whether I'm going to renew it because they’re going to have to do something for me. I’m just not satisfied with that situation.
On the other hand, the contractors were great. They did their part, they repaired the garage. The last gentleman who came out was excellent. He did everything professionally, fixed it the same day, and was very nice to work with. The only problem is not being covered by AHS in the same part twice. I would tell my friends about that experience. I would tell them too that there are times where the warranty has covered me and has done repairs where I only had to pay the deductible. But I would warn them to read the fine print because there are some things that are not covered with a home warranty and it can be misleading.

They are great at taking your money but they are terrible at living up to their end of their contract. It took the threat of legal action and tens of hours of time on hold (telephone) to get them to replace a pool heater. THEN when later received a notice that we needed to renew, we cancelled and they kept taking money out of our bank account anyway. And notice, they don't allow you to cancel online. They make you call in and literally stay on hold for hours (that is not an exaggeration). Absolute SCAM.

I have had AHS for several years and have found their customer service and response times drop SIGNIFICANTLY. I can assure when they want your money, they will contact you a million times. However, when you submit a claim or they need to pay a claim, it's darn near impossible to get anybody on the phone or to respond to emails. Most recently I have spent over 5 hours ON HOLD waiting for a customer service representative. In some cases I have had to hang up because I just can't wait any longer. Then less than 25% of the time are they able to help you. Typically they transfer you where you have to wait on hold again. After my contract is up this year, I will not be renewing!
Good morning, Tim. I apologize that you have had to endure such long hold times to get a resolution. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to further assist.
