I needed some appliances fixed and I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I like the ease of filing a claim. I just went online, filled the forms out and it was done and it went very well. The contractor got ahold of me within 48 hours, made an appointment to come out and did the job well. The first contact was about five days then about another seven days to get the repair done for the part. The timeframe was good and I have no complaints. I'd recommend AHS.

My microwave went out on Jan 8th, called AHS and 2 days later repairman came out. Said it needed a new one. It is now the 25th of Jan and still no replacement or repair. I am still waiting for any word when I will have one.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We had an issue with our refrigerator. This is the second time we've gone through the refrigerator problems with American Home Shield. And it was a problem with something that was frozen over but at the same time, the weather stripping that keeps all the cold air in the fridge is coming off. It was already replaced one time by AHS. The gentleman who came over said he is going to order the weather strippings again. Meanwhile, he fixed up the frozen part of the fridge. Here we are in January and I still can't get this rectified. This is just an outstanding case that's been a problem.
Also, we had a dishwasher issue. AHS has sent people five or six times and for the amount that they probably spent, we could have gotten a new dishwasher and eventually did. We've used AHS and been with them for about 10 or 12 years. The wait on the phone line is absurd but I still like the company. I like their system. I just get a little frustrated when I need something rectified. It's very hard to get through. It's very dependent upon who comes, whether the job gets done or not. And also, the follow through is pretty awful.

The turntable in our microwave oven was not working correctly and sometimes the fan too. Submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield was pretty easy. I went online then I got called within a couple hours. We made a claim right before Christmas then after Christmas, they came and they were on time. Everything worked smoothly. They fixed the oven and it is now back like new. AHS has been very good every time we had to use this company. We’re going to renew with them as they are worth the money.

American Home Shield accepted my claim for my garbage disposal that quit working and started smoking. Their representatives have been responsive and very helpful. And the particular company that they called to handle it was very responsive and came out in an appropriate amount of time. The plumber was very knowledgeable and had been in it for years. We have a Highland home and he worked for Highland for a long time installing all the stuff. I appreciated that he made a quick and neat job. We've had AHS for a long time since we lived in Denton and in another area at Flower Mound in Brookwood and now here. We like it very well and we renewed with them in three different houses. They are very good and I would recommend them.

My client had a plumbing problem and they submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Two plumbers were sent out but they said that they can install but not fix a Jacuzzi tub. It went downhill from there. I never had a problem with American Home Shield and I sell it all the time. And even if it takes a long time for anybody to answer the phone, they get the job done but not for this one. Still, American Home Shield is a fantastic company and I love them.

Anytime I call and speak to anybody in American Home Shield, they are completely professional, very helpful and they take care of everything right away. I’ve used them many times and I have not one complaint. Recently, I called them because my sink was clogged. AHS is wonderful each and every time and I’ve referred them to many friends. And the people that they send are very professional and they know exactly what to do and they don’t overcharge. They tell me what has to be done and everybody that I’ve ever dealt with has been wonderful. I will keep AHS as long as I can. It’s the best thing that I ever purchased for my home.

We needed our washer replaced. The bearings were bad. I always submit a claim online because it took too long on hold when I call it in. When AHS showed up, they said there were five or six parts that were broken inside so they couldn’t repair it but they ended up coming early and they were fast and did a great job. I bought the replacements myself. What they selected would have been nice but it wouldn’t fit under my countertop so there was only one that was short enough to accommodate, so hopefully it’s a good one. I'm thrilled with everything that AHS has done. We’ve been with them for a very long time and had two houses. I recommend them to everybody.

When I call to submit a claim, the representatives from AHS take my information and then put the service call for me. They have a long wait for whichever day or time and it’s always an hour plus of waiting. However, they’re trying to resolve that. Also, the contractors follow the procedures and guidelines that they were given by AHS.

The AHS reps are good and the contractors that they send have been amazing. On the other hand, I'm on hold for an hour and 45 minutes if I have any question. I've had to do that three to four times because they don’t have enough people answering their phone for customer service and it happens every single time. I simply put my phone on speaker phone and go about my business. They want customers to put their claims online and they don’t give the option to leave my number and them calling me back.
Also, there were a couple of times when I had somebody come out and they didn’t have the stuff that they needed. I had a plumbing issue one time that was pretty straightforward and the contractor did not know what he needed so, they had to come back. Another situation was my refrigerator kept going out. The technician said that he couldn't fix it and then AHS said they would send out his boss and I told them that he was the boss. It was inconvenient that the contractor had to come out numerous times before AHS said they would replace it.
I had also called AHS to repair my fireplace so, I went online and put it in as a 'furnace' because that was all I had my options for. I don’t know if it's considered a furnace, but it is gas and there's fire. I'll ask the contractor when I'm called to set up my appointment because I don't want to wait an hour and 45 minutes just to ask. Overall, having AHS is a good service to have and I've recommended them, but I've warned my friends that if they need to talk to anyone from AHS, it won't be anytime soon.

It was easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. I went online and they were prompt to set up a service schedule for me. The company that did the service called me to confirm an appointment. Then they were there and they took care of things. They were excellent and I was very pleased. I’ve had American Home Shield since I bought my home. I’ve had them servicing over the years and I’ve always had a good experience with them. It’s well worth the money and they’re very good when it comes to processing claims.

I called American Home Shield to work on my refrigerator and dishwasher. The dishwasher totally shut down on me and it was beyond my skill set. And then I had a problem with my refrigerator which was leaking, and I was not sure on how to fix it. And it was also something I didn’t want to try to YouTube and then go from there. So, I thought I’d better have a professional look at it. Submitting the claim online was very easy. It took five clicks of a mouse and I was done.
American Home Shield sent great contractors. They were really good guys and I had a nice conversation with them while they were working. They were very quiet, very professional, and they did a great job. I was very pleased with them. And now, the fridge has no more leaks and the dishwasher sounds and runs like a new one. We’re no longer hand washing dishes, nor do we have to worry about scraping ice out of the freezer. American Home Shield is very efficiently run, and they have a very good resource of contractors and one can’t complain. And I would highly recommend them to anyone. It’s well worth the investment.

Most of the buttons on our range were not working except for four and nine. I called American Home Shield and they arranged a vendor who came over to my house and changed the panel. I was happy that he knew the problem when he came. He had come in with the right panel that he had to put and we can now use the range. I was confused when I started because most of my friends said that having a home warranty is not needed. If there's anything that has to be fixed, I can fix it on my own and not unnecessarily pay $500 or $600 a year, but I feel that there is a peace of mind in having one. I'm not worried how I would fix it or how much money I have to invest that's why I'm going with it. Otherwise, I know most of the times, I will not need it and will not want to use it. I don't want things breaking.

The first time I had problems with the front loader washer was when the part that goes around wasn’t turning. I submit claims by phone but it’s impossible to talk to a live person. They just ask what’s the problem and the name of the appliance, and they always line me up with someone. Before I get off the phone, they send me an email and they tell me who’s supposed to come out, and if I don’t hear from them within 24 hours, I give them a call. But they always called me, and they are really nice about everything. American Home Shield is really good about getting somebody out, and I called on a Sunday. However, the company that came out the first time didn’t tighten up something, so I called American Home Shield again and they sent out a different contractor who fixed everything.
Then I had another problem with what the first person did, so someone came out yesterday and fixed that, and he said I have a whole new washer now. I got it fixed pretty quick and since the repair, the washer has always been good. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to everybody that owns a home. You don’t have to worry as long as you have the warranty because if something breaks down, they’re on it. I’m 70 years old and I can really sleep at night without worrying about where to get the money to fix the furnace if it goes out. I have to pay a service call, but it’s nothing compared to coming out with $4,000 and $5,000 at one time. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends.

I have two claims with American Home Shield lately on different apartments. In one of them, the service was really good, but there was a problem on the other one. They took the payment in December. I pay them quarterly, and I saw it was up to date because we always pay. When I requested for service, they said my policy was cancelled. I asked why they took the payment if the policy was cancelled. And they sent me to three different departments and nobody helped me. But I haven't had time to call and fight with the company about what they did. I also had to pay for somebody else to do the repairs for me.
Also, I wanted to renew and I already told them that I wanted to transfer the policy to my daughter-in-law because she's living in the apartment now and she will not pay for the policy. But they said that I didn’t say anything and they don’t have any information. I've always had excellent service and I never had complaints with the company until this latest bad experience that I had with them.
Most of the technicians that they've sent out gave me a good service. The only thing is they took two months to give me a new water heater. And when they sent the water heater, it was the wrong one, but then they sent the correct one. And after a month, the water heater became defective. I was sleeping one day in the apartment when my son asked me what happened in the apartment because it was all flooded. I had to shut out the water. And then, when the men from AHS came, they told me that the water heater was defective.
In the meantime, I'm stuck because I have to change the floor in three bedrooms and the salon. And AHS said they will replace the water heater but then, they said they don’t cover defective ones. I'm waiting for the morning so I can buy the water heater and call them to install it. The defective water heater is not their problem but the problem that I’m having is because of it. But other than those, the AHS people are always very nice on the telephone and very helpful whenever I call. I have been with AHS for several years and I've been very happy with their service. And I will recommend the company, too.

I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield for heating issues. The gentleman gave us a quote for a new furnace. However, he had to come back four times. It was for ordering the part, assessing the item, coming back and installing it, and then coming back to check on it. And we had to pay the deductible each time they came out. Nonetheless, AHS was very satisfactory and their reps were pleasant to deal with. It wasn't difficult at all once we knew where to go. We've been considering adding on appliances to the plan. My real estate agent thought that she got us on an all-inclusive plan, but apparently, some of the appliances aren't included. AHS is beneficial and helpful for us. However, having to pay a different deductible each time they come would be challenging. But other than that, it was a great service and it saved us money. I have recommended them.

My experience with American Home Shield hasn’t been very good. There are things that are covered according to the contract, but when contractors get out here they'll say they have to call AHS and AHS would say it’s not covered. When I talk to their employees and tell them what the contract says, they pass the buck between the plumber and AHS, and I'm in between. In the meantime, I don't get any benefit out of it. Plus, the wait periods are unbelievable. It was 54 minutes before I talked to a live individual the last time I called. That's not acceptable.
One of the contractors who came out was Loyalty. Loyalty sent a plumber out when the water tank was running. It was the type of thing that I'd normally have replaced myself. The plumber put in a new thing into the toilet and then he told me I needed a new handle. So, he went out to his car, and tried the handle but it didn't work. He told me he didn't have the right handle and he will come back with it. I asked him when he is coming back and told me in a couple of days. This was on a Friday, so I could understand that he wouldn't be back until Monday. Two weeks later, I called AHS and told them the guy didn't come back. The rep then told me that the plumber didn't write on the report that he was going to replace the handle. He didn't give me a copy so I can't prove that he said that he was going to be back. I asked the rep to call the plumber and ask him about it.
So AHS called them and then they told me that the plumber said that there was nothing wrong with the toilet, so he won't come out. I told them I still need a handle and they said, "Well, we'll charge you $100 if that isn't the problem." I told them that was fair, so they sent out another company and the guy was very nice. He looked at it and said I need a collar handle. He went out to his truck, came back and replaced the handle. The next time I called, AHS recommended Loyalty again. And every time, it was Loyalty, so I told AHS that the plumber won't even come out to the house.
When I had a stoppage, I put in a request and AHS sent out the same company that fixed the handle, but it was a different plumber. He was an hour late. They said between noon and 3:00, and he didn't get here until 4:00, and he's anxious to get off work. He told me that he was going to fix the hose bibb, but it was on the outside, so it was not covered. I told him it says in the contract it is covered. He said, "Well, it's outside your home.” And I replied, "Yeah, but it comes from the inside of the house." He said, "They won't cover it, but I'll fix it anyway." So, he fixed it. The other thing was the stoppage and he told that I have to have an outside access to the shower. But it doesn't say anything in the contract that I have to have that. He then said I have to do it because I have a trap in there. I told him that he should put that in his report that that's the reason that American Home Shield refused.
He looked at me and said that he can't put in there that there is a trap without tearing the whole thing up. But he just told me there is a trap. We could go downstairs, look up and we can see it. But he said it didn't make any difference, and they refused it because there's no outside access. On any of our toilets, I don't have an outside access to plumbing. There's nothing in the contract that says I have to have it. I've got one other rental place and I was considering getting AHS. But I'll be damned if I will if they don't cover anything. One of the plumbers said that he got a lot of complaints about AHS. So I don’t have plans of renewing.
The only reason I signed up in the first place was because AHS was doing a lot of television advertising and I thought that they must be a good company. At one point I asked the rep that I talked with to let me speak with one of the supervisors and I was told that all their supervisors were in meetings. I asked if they were working from home because they ask for my zip code and that's a typical home type of thing. The person said, "Oh, no. We don't work from home." And then I asked for somebody who has more authority than him and he said, "They're all in the meetings," which tells me that they must be working from home. I was in business for many, many years. There's always somebody in charge.
I understand your concerns with the toilet denial and the coverage that your policy provides. I would be glad to speak with you about your experience.

We had a toilet that was running non-stop and we couldn’t seem to fix it ourselves. We filed a claim for it online and the AHS website navigation was pretty easy. The plumber who came was very professional and efficient. There were old guts inside the toilet and he had to replace those. He fixed the problem in the end. AHS has been very useful for us the first two years in our home and we've had a lot of experiences. We’ve had one experience with AHS though that wasn’t so good. The AC company they sent out didn’t diagnose the issue correctly and we had to have another company come out and we ended up paying that company a lot of money to fix it and do it correctly. But AHS gave us a small amount to compensate for it.

My air conditioner was freezing up. I went online, submitted my claim, and Home Shield told me that I should be contacted within 24 to 48 hours by one of their companies to fix it. They called and said they set up an appointment, and it went smooth. The contractors came out and diagnosed the problem. It was a heater coil and the unit wasn't detecting that it was cold outside, so it wasn't defrosting it. The contractors ordered the parts and when the parts came in, they came back out, fixed it, and so far, it's been working pretty good.
The only problem I had was that Home Shield didn't send the same contractors that's familiar with the unit to do the job. I had a previous problem with my air conditioning and they sent out another company. If they send a company out to do something and I have a request for the same problem, send the same company out instead of having someone come out to start from scratch. Also, they went up $10 on my account and I don't know why. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. They're good. I give them a call, and I get a response within 24 to 48 hours. I can't ask for any better than that.

American Home Shield is a good policy to have. We had a couple of things done and all of their contractors have been very professional. Our most recent claim with them was for the dishwasher with an electronic board that was not working. They assigned one of their contractors to come out. The board was an obsolete part so they said they had to replace the dishwasher.
I got an email indicating that the dishwasher had to be replaced including the options. With Option A they presented the dishwasher that they would provide if we will buy it and have a contractor come out. Option B was to go out and find our own dishwasher and AHS would pay up to the same amount that they would’ve on the dishwasher that they were going to provide under their plan but we would still install it. And then Option C was to take the lump sum number and then go out and purchase our own dishwasher but we have to have it installed. I took option C because I wanted to get the dishwasher that matches the appliances that I had, but it would cost a bit more than what AHS was allowing. It was a KitchenAid brand. I took the lump sum price, put that towards the dishwasher and then had it install myself.
Having AHS is convenient since you don’t have to worry about finding contractors to come and do work. AHS does this naturally, so I would think they would have done their due diligence and these contractors that they select to do their work would have to meet a certain standard for sure. But the downside is you’re one party away from being involved in that. So for less savvy homeowners who don’t know how to shop contractors or specialists in the various fields, that could be very difficult. Also sometimes you never know what you’re going to get. AHS is sometimes not perfect as well since it's been lagging communication in trying to get things scheduled a bit.

I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue back in December. Their rep was very professional and respectful. They made it very easy for me to have my stuff taken care of. Once I called, it was not very long before the technician came out. He came either on the same day or the day after. The faucet on my bathtub, even when it was in the off position, was still leaking water. Once that got fixed, the technician also told me that there was a power surge in my house at some point, which had turned off my water heater. He then told me how to reset my water heater so that I could have hot water again. He was very respectful and polite. He kept things as professional as possible and answered any kind of questions that I had. Everything has been great since the repair and having hot water is wonderful. It was a great experience and very low maintenance on my end.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, it is always online. I don't ever call them on the phone because it's a guarantee that I might be on hold for one hour or longer. And while it is easier to do it online, they should definitely make some changes. As their policy is right now, if you have multiple kitchen appliances that have issues, they can all go on the same claim. But, you can only make a claim on one of them online. And then, when the technician gets to you, they have to add those other items to the claim. If it's something like minor, they could do it when they're here. It could be something that they have on their truck, and then they can go ahead and fix it. But instead, they have to submit a claim for them to come back the second time to do it.
So far, the appliance technician sent by American Home Shield has been from the same company. And he's awesome and friendly and does a thorough job. But, the very first guy that came out was terrible. And then, when I called back to do the claim, it was just ridiculous. The lady even hung up so it was just a bad problem. So, I had to make another claim and had to sit on hold with American Home Shield for an hour. Then, they had somebody come out. And for the longest time, they charge me another $75. They kept saying I was behind $75 when it was the same claim with a different company.
Recently, though, they repaired my fridge. And the wait time to turn around and get it fixed took a long time. They have to order stuff and then come back. And I went 10 days without a refrigerator. Other than the wait time, American Home Shield's willingness to do things and not question and cause an issue for the client is great. I'm a real estate agent and I actually sell the same warranty that I use to every buyer. And I tell them that with a new or resell home, they'll never really know. Something could be working at the time of inspection. But within a couple of months, it could go out. And everyone I've ever had sold the warranty has been very satisfied.
American Home Shield covers everything from washing machine to the dryer to plumbing and to garage door openers. And a lot of those home warranty companies out there don't or they give customers a massive runaround and have a very large service fee deductible that their customers have to pay. American Home Shield isn't like that. While they're much more expensive than the majority of the home warranty companies out there, they're worth it. And once the one year warranty runs out, buyers have the option to pay monthly like I do.

We called American Home Shield yesterday for our garage door opener. It runs on a screw and something got ground down on it so it wouldn’t open. Their claims process was simple. I didn’t talk to somebody though. It was all done through, “Yes, I want to file a claim.” “Press this number.” “What’s your problem?” “My garage door opener.” And they repeated it. Five minutes later, I got a call from Flash Garage Door and they set up an appointment for the next day. The contractors were nice people. They found the problem quickly and fixed it quickly too. Everything’s working fine now. American Home Shield has been great. Anytime we called in a work order and we had to deal with AHS, we’ve always been helped out. I tell people all the time that they are a great deal and that they should look into it if they own a home.

Our water heater broke down a couple of months ago. I called American Home Shield to have it replaced. They were initially okay but I think it took longer than I liked. There was miscommunication on one of the operators. The service man came in and he explained that the water heater needs to be replaced. I wasn't home. He told my wife what needs to be done. He said it needs to be brought to code so that would cost extra money. I called to double-check on that. I said, “Well, if I want to do it myself, what is the procedure?” They said, “Well, we'll pay you X amount based on what we pay.” So I said, “No. Go ahead and do it. I just want to make sure this guy wasn't trying to upsell me anything.” Then she scheduled based on, “I'll be doing it.” When they did not respond, I called back. That took an extra two to three days, which means we had no hot water for about five days. Other than that, all is fine. I would still recommend AHS to others.

My garbage disposal unit was leaking very heavily and I submitted the claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone. The guy that got here was very professional, friendly and on time. He explained what the problem was. We've lived here for about eight years so he decided that it was not fixable and replaced it with a new one. He put a brand new one in there, and he was in and out in a good time. It's totally fixed and I haven't had any more problems. One time though someone came out to work on my clothes dryer and he didn't speak and understand English very well. We got through the job but it was just a little annoying with him not understanding what I was saying and there wasn't a lot of communication. I've had American Home Shield for years and I like them. My experience with them has always been good and I never had any issues with them at all. My recent claim with them was for a furnace. I submitted the claim online and the experience was fine. Their website is user-friendly. Then the claim got elevated within 24 hours and the technician was knowledgeable on what needed to be done, and he fixed it. The first time they came out, I had to tell them to come back out. There was something else that was going on with it. It had something to do with the thermostat. Once they figured all that out, it was fine and we haven't had any problem since after that. Plus, the person that came out helped.
They showed us how we should be able to keep our heat at a certain temperature for up and downstairs by using the lever that we have on the outside, and we didn’t know we had that in the house. So, that helped us now and the whole house is heated up equally. I'll recommend American Home Shield to others and if they're homeowners, I always suggest that they go with American Home Shield.

I’ve used American Home Shield a few times and they're good. But if there’s a problem and I need to call them, I will sit on the phone for over an hour waiting for them to answer. I also have an issue with my stove and they haven't been able to figure it out. The oven went bad and so they wanted to replace the oven. But they can't replace the oven on this stove. It's a Thermador and it's a one unit. And then there's something wrong with the burner. The tech made a list and ordered the parts but the insurance company told him it's not worth it. They told me to buy another stove and they'll contribute $2,300 to it but they weren't able to serve it. It cost me $20,000 to replace it and it cost $1,500 to repair but they won't do it. But, other than that, they’re fast and I like them. I highly recommend them but for this particular issue, they didn't know what to do with this high-end stove. They went around in circles. Other than that, they've been quite a pleasure to deal with.

I usually submit my claim with American Home Shield online because it’s more convenient and I can get it submitted quickly. My most recent claim was for my water heater’s pilot light. The contractors that come out have been good for the most part. There have been a couple of instances where I wasn't 100% satisfied. But in this last instance, I definitely was. When there's been an issue, American Home Shield, for the most part, has been pretty responsive in helping me get the resolution quickly. There was one instance when they had to come back for an air conditioning unit and it turned out that it was an equipment issue. So, the equipment had to be replaced.
There hasn't been a major issue at any given time and I would certainly not go without having some form of a warranty coverage like AHS in an older home so it serves a valid purpose. I would certainly recommend giving them a chance. There are few other home warranty companies out there that I'm aware of and we've been with AHS for quite a while. There's a reason we've stayed so we're able to recommend them without any hesitation.

My heat pump unit started smoking, so I turned it off and called American Home Shield. When the repair guy came, he said that it was leaking carbon monoxide into the house and that it needed to be replaced. Currently, my dog is in the hospital and I'm waiting for the results of my blood tests to come back. It was not a good experience.
That repair guy also said that American Home Shield would find the cheapest unit that they could get to put in and that he could guarantee me that within the first year it would break down and that I would be calling him out to repair it and I would be all sorts of frustrated. He offered to sell me one at a discounted price and I really felt that I was getting a con job. This guy was telling me stuff that the company didn’t want him to say. I was not cool with that. After he left, I had a friend call back and go through the automated service for me and got somebody else to come out because I really didn’t know. They basically said the same thing but they didn’t tell me things and sell me something else.
I was really glad that I got such quick service and I will be really happy when I finally get it replaced. Somebody called though and left a message on my phone earlier this afternoon saying that they were going to charge me $250 to use a crane to put the new unit into its seat. They won't need to do that because my neighbor is more than willing to move his vehicle so that we can do it without the crane. I am very satisfied with my AHS experience overall.

I made an online service request on Jan 10th for a leaky faucet. H&H Plumbing came the next day. When I showed the serviceman where the leak was he stated that it looked like I needed a new faucet. He said that he would have to call it in. He went to his truck to make the call and returned saying he couldn’t help me because the faucet was not part of my contract. He said there was no charge and then left. Two weeks later I discover that AHS deducted $75 from my account! When I called AHS I was told whether or not the serviceman does anything I still have to pay the service charge! I’ve been with AHS for 12 years and anytime the vendor comes out to fix something, I’ve paid the vendor directly for the service fee, not AHS. I pay AHS a monthly fee of $54.68. Service fees have always been paid to the vendor. Please beware that AHS will charge you whether service is rendered or not! I will never do an online submission with them again.

My microwave broke in my rental home. A serviceman was dispatched... Cost $75. He deems the microwave needs to be replaced. AHS then request I take the measurements! Why didn't the serviceman take them? My tenants give me the measurements, and a unit is ordered. When it comes the tenants measure wrong on the height by 1/2 inch, so we had to return it. They charged me $69 for the restocking fee! This could have been avoided, had they had the repairman measure or they send someone to measure! I then call them and tell them just deduct the fee and send me money so I can buy a unit. The rep says no problem. Three weeks go by and nothing.
I call and the woman says,"You need to pay the $69 before our accounting can cut you a check!" What am I, a mind reader? No one ever send me any communication on this, so here it is January 25 and I have been without a microwave since November 13! Do yourself a favor and just put your monthly fee aside and if something goes wrong you can just use that fund to take care of it. This insurance is not worth it, neither is the time you'll wait on hold! I think they only have a handful of employees and they are not helpful! I am out $134 and still don't have a microwave. They are only sending me $200 for a microwave that was well over $600. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I've had American Home Shield for over 20 years. I pay $57.00 per month and then you pay $75.00 if you ever use them. Thats all fine. Electrical outlet garbage disposal, anything simple is easy except actually calling to schedule an appointment. I dont believe in the last 3 years I have ever called and I get the recording, "It's our busy time of day." It's always busy. Be prepared to wait 1/2 hour to 1 hour. However if you have a major appliance air conditioner, refrigerator, washer you need to be prepared to buy a new one. My AC went out Wednesday Night. Live in Texas we were in the hottest time of summer. Called Thursday morning and were told someone will be out on Friday. They came out they tried to seal coils. Worked for several hours and broke. Called Friday afternoon and am I kidding its Friday afternoon we cant do anything before Monday.
Sorry. My fault thats after being on the phone for 2 hours inside house is 90 degrees 100 % humidity. They came back out on Monday tried to fix again. Guess what? Broke again. Called out 2 more people independent that I paid for. "Sir your system is 18 years old. It's broken." Back on with American Home Shield. By the way if they have any supervisors you will never talk to them. They are not allowed to actually speak to people. I'll send you to escalation department. They cant make a decision. We're now in a hotel. It's been a week. They said they would pay for 2 nights. Bottom line I had to buy a new unit almost $9,000.00, they never paid for hotel. Said they would never have told me that. Guess I'm the liar. I've also bought a new refrigerator. Same story. If you can wait a week for them to try everything before they replace. Food is spoiled. You have a ice chest.
Same story with washer. Again after everything has been tried and you are now doing laundry at the laundromat. Since you have a family had to buy a new one. Every repairman that comes to your house will tell you before they replace anything they are actually hoping for a miracle. This is not I bought a house and have your service for a year. This is after having service for 20 years appliances that are old and broken. Forget the water heater. Unless you have it drained every 6 months you screwed up.
Read the contract. If by some miracle they replace an appliance it will be the lowest line and lowest cost. You will still pay to upgrade to something that is not bottom of the line. Thats ok. I'll pay the difference. I understand but the system is set up so you dont get paid for anything unless youre got a week or two call several times except 1 hour every time you call and get attitude that you would even ask and above all they have these huge centers all these representatives but you will never never never find a supervisor. I still have there service I guess I am the stupid one

I hope they have more people working so I don't have to wait on the phone so long. Also, most of the ones doing the repair are good ones once they get hold of you, but it can take several days before someone actually calls you. So as long as you’re not in a rush, everything is good. It took some time with the last contractor I had but he was very good and it was okay waiting for him. He did something else in the house before, and the same thing, he took a little while but it was worth it. He knows the appliances very well. My appliance is working very well now. I've had American Home Shield for 24 years and over the last eight years, the trend that is going on with them is not good. I've got an older house, and had issues with the heating, refrigerator and dishwasher. Now the price keeps going up but they keep having more restrictions. Also, if you want a particular person you've worked with before to come, you have to stay on the phone for at least 30 minutes just to get a person who then tells you to go to their website and that you can request it there. However, you can't request a specific vendor or person on the site. I also have vendors that I never want to work with again and those are the ones that they tend to assign me if I do it online. If I call American Home Shield, I put my phone on speakerphone and listen to their awful music for 30 minutes. Then I go ahead and do my other work using my landline or my computer while I'm waiting for them to pick up the phone.
I'm on Eastern Standard time and if I call at 7:00 AM, particularly on a Sunday, I usually don't have to wait as long. But when the rest of the country wakes up and if it's during the week, then I have to wait longer. American Home Shield's reps are very nice once you get to them. However, they don't have enough people working for them. I've had many of the reps say that I'm the nicest person they have talked to all day. So they got a lot of verbal abuse from people waiting. They also have a thing now where you can either pay the $75 upfront or wait 48 hours until the work is done, which I do. Recently the thermostat on my refrigerator went out. The vendor had to then order the parts through American Home Shield. However, they sent the wrong part to the vendor so it took two weeks for my air conditioning to be fixed.

I had a pool incident and AHS came out and fixed it. Then I had an issue with the pool again and they told me it was the filter but it's not. My wife also had an issue with the washing machine. Something internally is messed up and it ended up messing up a leg in the machine because the leg couldn’t take the pressure and AHS did nothing. They said, “Oh, just put a cleaner in there, some kind of cleaner kit, and clean it. It just needs to be cleaned”. They never fixed it so my AHS expired. In order for me to renew it, they should come and fix my washing machine. If not, I’ll find another warranty company because they did nothing and every time they come out, I get a call fee of $75.
My wife bought the kit and it did nothing, so now I got to put another claim in, and another $75 for the same claim because they told me to clean it and they’ll come back. So, it’s costing me $150, whereas if I called an appliance guy, he might have told me “Give me $100 and I’ll fix it” or "you got to scrap the machine". In addition to that, I put in several service calls and it took about three weeks for them to get there, and they said they called and did this and that, but nobody called me nor my wife. I would tell others to check out other warranty companies before making a decision to choose AHS because they’re not prompt in keeping their word. I got no problems renewing the warranty, but at least, come out and make the repairs.

I had a problem with my washer and icemaker. I was hoping for it to be at the same time but it ended up having to be at two separate times because after I told the guy sent by American Home Shield that I was having problems with the icemaker, he looked at it and said that it had gone out. I had to have the icemaker replaced. Then I had to have the hinge on the washer door replaced and I had to have a water pump replaced from the washer as well. Now, I've got both the washer and the refrigerator fixed.
I'm glad I have that insurance because I have very expensive appliances. I have a $1,800 washer and dryer that I've had for about seven to nine years. Then I have a $2,500 refrigerator that I've had for two years now. As of now, they’ve been doing good. The warranty was no good, so I'm glad I got the Home Shield warranty. I had a good experience with having both appliances fixed and I'd highly recommend AHS. I just hope that they don’t ever go out at the same time because I am on pension and I have to budget my money.

One time though, we had an air-conditioning unit go out and had a regular air-conditioner guy who knew what the problem was and could get a part in a week but it took American Home Shield over a month to fix. American Home Shield gets the job done. I talk to them when they come and it's a pleasant young man. But for our most recent claim my wife said AHS won't fix our air conditioner if it's outside the home. We set our the thermostat at 76 degrees and it's either hotter than hell or cold as the north pole, and we have to keep resetting it and it's not functioning right. I told my wife if we can't get things like this taken care of, and this is why we're paying for it, we're going to hunt for somebody that will.
AHS gave me a card and every time I call them they tell me that the contract number is no longer valid and they tell me to write down the new one. That's the way they used to do things back in the 18th century when we didn't have automation and modern conveniences. I said, "Why don't you do better than that? Why don't you send me a new card?" That's the way most of the people we do business with do it. They send us a new card with the correct current property number on it. They said they'll send out a card but I'm still waiting for it and I don't know what I have to do to get it. It's a reasonable request to ask them for a new card if they tell me that the number on my card is not right. They should be able to automatically send me a new card and I shouldn't even have to ask them, but I've asked them three times now and I still haven't gotten one. That is a black eye on AHS.

I had a problem with the turning on and off switch inside my faucet. I submitted the claim online to AHS and I liked the website. The only thing is that it doesn’t let you put in any detail to tell the company that’s going to come out. It would be nice if they could add some verbiage, like if we could have said, “Here’s what’s happening…” All it says is it's a plumbing and it’s a faucet issue. The very first thing we used with American Home Shield was for our refrigerator. It took three companies. The first one that came out totally messed up. The second one was set to come out and I called and said, “Now, do you realize what you’re coming for?” And they said, “Oh, we don’t work on those kinds of refrigerators. So, thank goodness, we saved ourselves from coming out.”
The third one who came out said, ”What the first said was totally wrong,” and he fixed it. Here’s the thing, it’s a GE and it’s built-in. There was no way for me to put that. As soon as they assigned someone, I called the contractor and said, “Okay, you know you’re dealing with a built-in Monogram?” “Oh, we don’t work on built-in.” I couldn't put that on the website.
Typically, I will call and say, “Hey, I got to warn you. Here’s what you’re going to be looking for.” The contractor called us that same day and they came out two days later. The contractor was fine but we had to resubmit the claim because he didn’t completely fix it. When you turn off a faucet, your handle stops at a certain point. Our handle just keeps going round and round and it turns it back on and off and on and off. They called and they’re coming back out next week.
Having a home warranty has been good for us because it’s a new house, but I wouldn’t do it again for another year. I'm subject to whoever they send out and I know that at some point, you go, “Okay, I have a trusted plumber.” AMPAM Plumbing doesn’t have the best star rating and they were the ones who came out and has to come back. They were very nice, professional and they’ve called on time but it’s a pretty simple thing of not getting your faucet to stop and shut off.

American Home Shield recently solved our plumbing problem and had the interiors replaced. It's working fine now. We had a problem with our heating prior to that and my wife called AHS and a contractor responded to it. The contractor was excellent in every category. If we ever have another problem with it, I'm going to request we get the same company back here. I liked everything about them.
But the first time we ever called American Home Shield, which was a couple of years ago, our experience was terrible that we considered dropping them. Our air conditioner went out in the middle of August and here in Alabama, it's hot. On three different occasions, the company that AHS was using sent out three different technicians but none of them could fix the problem. Finally, somebody came out and it took him three days to fix it. We were without air conditioning for three weeks in 100-degree weather. We used fans 24 hours a day. Despite that experience, we stayed with AHS. This year, the heating went out and they sent that company over here. The young man fixed it in 30 minutes.

My refrigerator, the ice maker and the microwave all went at once. I submitted the claim online since I have a very hard time getting through to American Home Shield on the phone. It's at least half an hour's wait. Not only that. They also assign people who don’t call for days. I had two really bad experiences as far as getting people to touch base and saying, “Look. I can’t get there today but I’ll try to get to you in two days. Please let me know.” But they just don’t call.
When the rep assigned the refrigerator person, I didn't even know if they were still in business. But then she got this other guy. He called me and came right out, and what he did for me was incredible. I was without a refrigerator for five days because it happened on a weekend, and he did what he had to do to get the fridge going. Then he said that we needed a part. He let me know that he was ordering it, that it would take a week and that he would be back. Sure enough, he was. He was definitely on the ball.
But the process of calling Home Shield and them assigning is really bad. I live in Fort Pierce and maybe there are not a lot of companies here. But for my air conditioner, the guy they assigned was over an hour and a half away from me. He was definitely going to put me at the end of the line because it's a long drive. He can't make any money driving way over here for an hour and a half and an hour and a half back. They have 24 business hours to respond but that is three days, eight hours a day. I had to call Home Shield and say, "Nobody is coming. What are you going to do?” And I had to do that twice. I was ready to kill my realtor for recommending them to me. But on the positive side, I did get my refrigerator fixed.

We had a water heater go out, so we called American Home Shield to set up a plumber for that particular situation. This one was a little bit different from the past when I have worked with them. I've always had a lot of good luck submitting claims online, but this one was an after-hours call and an emergency situation. I was on hold for over an hour and a half which was not okay, but considering it was an emergency, it needed to be done. Once I got through, the rep was able to get everything set up and got a hold of a technician relatively quickly. Then they got everything scheduled right away.
The technician that came out was wonderful and really friendly. Although I wasn’t there, my husband was there when this was going on and the report I got from him was that they kept him informed of everything. We didn’t know for sure if we'd have to replace the heater, but we appreciated the work that he did. If we had the opportunity to request specific contractors, I'd see if we could get this particular one. The ease of getting my problem taken care of as far as it being pre-paid and built through American Home Shield was nice and convenient but the wait was disappointing. I had First American before and had a very negative incident. My AC went out and I had no heat for three weeks. I called them several times every day without fail and nothing got resolved until I got a hold of the Better Business Bureau. So I discontinued their service. My daughter was with American Home Shield and she recommended them so I went ahead and signed up with them. My experience with AHS has been a lot better. When I had someone from American Home Shield come out for the first time, the tech told me everything he couldn't do. The one thing he said he could do was that he'd be back but he never did. I waited for two months and there was nothing. When I was getting billed for it, I told them that the work hasn't been done and I was not going to pay for anything. So it stank in the beginning, but I finally got the results and that was when I was allowed to make the payments myself.
I have submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone once and it got crazy. I preferred talking with somebody but it was difficult to get a hold of anybody. So I submitted my next claim online because it was a lot faster. I was happy because they called within the time that they promised. They were very responsive and the contractors came, so it was good. But it was one of those things that the contractor had to try to take baby steps with and they're still doing that.
Initially, they thought that the problem was with one item but when they replaced that they found that it was possibly something else so they needed to order that part. This would be their second time trying to get it done as they were trying to get it through the process of elimination and they weren't sure. They were supposed to get back to me about that this week but they didn't. Everything else has been really well and I would recommend American Home Shield. If anything ever happened again, I'd put a stop to them right away, but I've been happy so far.

But then, I have to pay $125 which was supposedly a credit that they could just take out from my next month's bill, but it's still showing. Since they're trying to make me pay every month and not just take the credit out, I've talked to a lot of people from AHS. They said I have to pay it and I kept telling them no.
Before that, I had submitted a claim because my electricity inside the house wasn't working. The guy sent by American Home Shield did a very good job and helped us out of that. On that experience, it was okay. Then this time, I'm not liking what's going on because when the contractor came, he told me that the part needed for my AC would be ordered and would take about a day or two which was fine. But then, nobody called to do anything. When I finally got to talk to somebody, they said they could come the next day, but I couldn't believe it took about a week. I have a three-year-old fan and we had passed a day that went down to 20 and we had no heater. And then now that it's hot, we have a heater with all the fans on because we don't have AC. It didn't make any sense.
Overall, American Home Shield should seek and hire better people so they could go to our home and do what they got to do since they say they're prepared. One of the fan motors in the heating unit went out. I tried to submit the claim with a representative at American Home Shield but the hold time was three and a half hours and I got disconnected half way through it. It really pissed me off and I was very annoyed. The wait time was crazy although I’m sure they were busy with everybody’s heater going out or needing repairs for frozen pipes. But what annoyed me is that there was no way to request a callback. If you get disconnected like I did after three and a half hours into the phone call, you start back at the very end of the key hours when you call back. I tried to call the contractor company direct because they’ve been out the month before and they did a temporary fix. They said, “If it goes out again within 60 days, give us a callback. There’s no additional charge, we’ll come back out.” They came back out and fixed it.
I was told to go online to file a claim so I did but I filed it wrong. I filed it as a new claim instead. I didn’t see the box there that you could check to file a secondary claim so they gave it to another person and that’s when I called back. That company called me later that day and said, “Hey, we’ll be out Tuesday to fix it.” I said, “Well, just so you guys know, this is already an existing thing.” And they said, “Oh, we can cancel that but you’re going to have to file another claim.” That’s when I had to get on the phone with American Home Shield and it ended up working out fine. The interactions I had with the contractor was great and they were amazing. They’re great to work with, funny and very professional. They took care of the problem very quickly. They could see that something was about to go, but because of the way that American Home Shield works, they can’t replace it until it goes finely.
They had the part number so I called them and they said, “Okay. We’ll be there Tuesday to fix it.” They brought it and swapped it out. They’re very easy to reach. Unfortunately, you still have to go through the rig and a row, but I know now for the next time on filing a pre-existing claim. I would absolutely recommend American Home Shield to a friend, and in fact, I have.

The drain in one of our bathrooms would slowly back up. Something was damaged previously and when it got repaired, it left sediments in the pipe. American Home Shield sent plumbers out and they were able to clear the pipe and everything returned to normal. It was all very quick. The people AHS selected were good and I was satisfied with the result. Every time we've had a problem, they tend to happen in the middle of the night wherein there's not a person to talk to but we can just submit a claim online which I did, and I was happy that they called me back quickly the following morning. The contractors they've sent have all been very professional and friendly. Having American Home Shield has definitely been worthwhile. They’ve been prompt and saved me thousands of dollars this year already.

I submitted a claim online for my refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. I decided to file a claim all at once since I really had to get the refrigerator replaced. That was about 60 days ago. The contractor that came out was very nice and very informative. He was knowledgeable about our products and even about the process with American Home Shield or filing a claim. He could guess which ones probably would be replaced and which ones would probably be fixed because he has been in the business for a while. So, he knows how old certain things are and if he will be able to find them or not.
Now, my dishwasher works fine. For items that were replaced, as far as American Home Shield is concerned, it went well. I just had to go buy a new refrigerator and then pick a new microwave. Everything went smoothly. I got the money quicker than I thought. I have recommended American Home Shield. It is worth it to have.

I had a plumbing clog and called American Home Shield but couldn’t get through. And so, I went online and submitted it that way. If you call for sales, somebody is right there. But if you call because you need help, you've got to wait and wait. My last claim wasn’t something that they covered because my plumbing line needed a clean-out. I had old lead pipes and the plumber said, "They're not going to pay for this because they're not going to add something that's not already there." So, I had to pay for that myself. There’s nothing wrong with the agents of American Home Shield but I don’t feel like my business is really important. They're just somebody that's doing their job. They do what they say they're going to do and I have no complaints about that. They don’t budge one bit though from what their policy has or does not have. There's no gray area whatsoever.
The submission of claims was quick and I had to set up an account. The contractors have been great. They have always taken care of things promptly. Every now and then, if it's 10 degrees and the furnace goes out, they're going to be busy. But the last time I had that, I called American Home Shield that morning and the guy was out that afternoon. It was taken care of and I was very happy with that. There had been times when they replaced the water heater. It would have been $800 to $1,200 bill for me but it cost me $75. I was glad to have them.
But American Home Shield needs to have more people answering the lines so when somebody calls in with a claim. Also, they need to make whoever they're talking to feel more appreciated as a customer. There are a lot of these home warranty outfits out there. They've got to act within the parameters of their policy. If something is not covered, it's not covered. There might be someone better out there but they've done okay for me and I trust them. I'm glad about the situation.

Something was wrong with the hot water in the house and submitting a claim for it online was easy and we love the contractor that they’ve sent. He was very professional and nice. He replaced a part that he had originally replaced about a month ago because it was a defective part. The problem was fixed quickly. Everything was done the same week and the unit is working 100% better now.

Our heater stopped working so we put in a claim, and AHS got a company to come out and fix it. It was really easy to submit a claim. I went online and filled out a form, then they sent me an email to confirm that they received my request. They gave me the name of the company that would be calling me within the hour. It was very informative and what they said would happen did happen. Their website was very user-friendly as well. It was very convenient for me. I was surprised because I was Googling American Home Shield to find the number to call, and I found the place where I could fill out the request. By the time I would’ve dialed the number and waited for someone, my request was already in.
The contractor was onsite for an hour and 10 minutes. He was very knowledgeable about the appliance that he was working with and he even gave an estimate of how long I should expect to get more life out of it. He told me that it was built to last and then after he switched out the thing that got burned out, it was up and running. He said that he expected that there was probably another three to five years left in it. I loved the service and if I need AHS, I’ll use them again. I’ve recommended them and I’ve told people that it’s really good protection to have in case something breaks down. It’s a cheap monthly fee for the peace of mind that you’re paying for. If the contractor they send out to fix your claim can’t repair it, then they will pay to replace. It’s a really good deal that can’t be passed up.

Do not use this company! I called after a septic problem in my home. Was forced to pay $100.00 after they sent out a company that doesn't service septic tanks! They then issued it to another company after charging me another $100.00 who never showed up or returned our calls. I tried getting in contact with American Home Shield for 2 weeks, was promised a manager would call me after waiting for over an hour and once again was never able to get in contact with anyone. Eventually we had to pay out of pocket for repairs and American Home Shield refused to reimburse us. Save your money and use a company that answers their phones and honors their warranties!

I had two policies through this company, on different properties. The main problems, and there were many, were that it was a huge hassle to get to speak to anyone at AHS and/or get anything approved. Also, the contractors used were in every instance, useless and bad workers. Many times we had to get our own people in to do the work. Their contractors also tried to get extra work by saying that it was needed and then AHS wouldn't approve it. A simple example was a leaking faucet which was never repaired and they wanted to all kind of extra work. I don't understand the good reviews. I have canceled the policies I had and am still having a problem with incorrect charges.

We called American Home Shield 10/25/17 and reported that our Maytag Dryer is broken and making unbearable sounds. Technician was dispatched to the house and looked at the dryer. Without even opening the dryer, he said that he needs to change/order some parts and left. No one called us after he left. We tried to call this technician/company – Nobody answered. We called American Shield again and they contacted the technician/company. A week later, technician came and replaced some parts. However, the dryer was still not working properly and was having similar issues. Technician told us that he needs to replace another part and this part should come in a few days. We waited a 2 more weeks. Nobody came, nobody called us.
We had to call back to American Home Shield again! They sent a different technician, who came and replaced another part, and he told us not to use the dryer for 2-3 hours. When we started to use it again – nothing changed. The noise and vibration started was even worse than before. We had to call again to American Home Shield, talk with manager about this issue. After arguing a long time with American Home Shield, they finally sent the first technician back to our house again. He recorded a video of the dryer and told us that he cannot fixed it and American Home Shield will contact us. As always, no-one contacted us.
We called again into American Home Shield and were told that this technician reported the dryer is working. We explained that our dryer still doesn’t work properly and is making unbearable loud sound. American Home Shield gave us another company. We contacted to this company and told them that we will be out of country and we call back after New Year. When we called back, they told us that they don’t have record of the request and we need to call again into American Home Shield. Last call was 1/8/18 to American Home Shield and they told us that we need to open a new request and pay additional $75 for a new claim!!!!
Every time we call into American Home Shield, we wait for more than one hour and take the day off every time a technician comes. We have been dealing with this issue for over 3 months now with no improvement to our dryer. The dryer is still not working properly and the noise is getting louder. The noise sounds like metal rubbing and scraping against metal throughout the cycle and the clothes is taking longer to dry.

If I order it thru the company that is doing the fixing it can be done in a day, 2 at most. But since they have to order it thru American Home Shield the time is DRASTICALLY lengthened. Dishwasher took nearly 3 weeks. Claim made on November 14th didn't get fixed till end of the month/early Dec. Needless to say Thanksgiving was fun lol. Furnace went out and claim made January 18th. Today is the 24th and we are still waiting on part. This is January in Michigan. I am not happy. I am sure after I get this fixed I will be cancelling this policy.

He didn’t fix anything but he explained things. He said that with the water tank that we have, we should only get about two 15-minute showers out of it but we used to get more than that out of it before. There’s four people in the house and I was hoping it needed to be replaced. I wasn’t happy about that. We have septic and well water, and our pumps were replaced two years ago by American Home Shield. But the people that had replaced the pumps didn't alert us that we might need some new wiring because the other wiring was old. So a week before Christmas, our water cut out. If we turn on the pump for the well water and it’s not working properly, then we can’t get water. We called American Home Shield and the people that initially put the pump in weren’t going to get here until Friday, but we needed it the next day. My elderly mother was staying here and we needed them. We couldn’t flush the toilet or turn on the water.
But American Home Shield was quick about getting us somebody else and the second group of people that came to the house did a good job. American Home Shield has been good about everything, but a couple of years back, we were trying to get a new refrigerator and it was a big hassle. My garbage disposal wasn’t coming on. American Home Shield’s representatives were helpful although it was a pain to call them when I want to speak to a person. I've been with AHS since 1999 and it used to take not more than five minutes to speak to an operator. But now, the shortest wait time it took was three hours. I’ve even held on the phone for five hours just to talk to somebody. I already called for before so I needed to speak to a person to keep from having to pay the deductible again. I've complained and said it was ridiculous and they said they were hiring some more workers.
When I finally got a hold of somebody, they were really helpful. The contractor called me the next day and they came out a couple of days later. I was happy to get them that week because when I called for a claim lately, they told me that they were all booked up for the next week. And if I needed something done, two weeks was a long time. The guys that came were nice but they didn't fix the problem. One said he unplugged and plugged the plug back under the sink and that the garbage disposal was already working. He considered it fixed so it might be the socket because it quit again right after he did it.
Usually, the people that AHS sends out take care of the problem but for the past year, they don't have contractors as good as before. Some of the people they're using are not what l expect for the money that I pay. The contractors that they're using now sometimes don't call me back for a couple of days. I'm in real estate and I've been selling AHS warranty for years. My overall experience with them has been good although at different times, I've waited more than an hour for a rep on the phone. But they've always treated me very nicely and they've been very thorough. But right now, I'm dealing with the worst service in the world. In fact, the two bad experiences I've had were with this particular company and they were regarding my furnace and my daughter's heat pump.
Back on December 18, 2016, a part had broken on my gas furnace. When the temperature becomes 30 degrees or below, the furnace will work for a period of time and then it builds up moisture and cuts off. You have to throw the breaker and it takes 30 minutes to reset. The part had to come from Texas and the company that came out was slow in ordering the part. It was supposedly on a truck coming from Texas but I ended up replacing the furnace and taking credit for the part. The contractor finished putting the part in at 8:00 PM of December the 23rd and they left here in the dead of the night. Things went downhill from there.
The company that put the part in did not put the correct furnace under my house and now they're calling me a liar. I've been in contact with Caroline and American Home Shield has been trying to get the issue resolved. I'm now in the process of getting written statements from the contractor that put the unit in and another contractor that I've had out. Then I'm going to submit them to Caroline. But if the issue doesn't get resolved, I'm suing this company and I've already told Caroline too. It's just one of those things where I've got to watch the contractors. But this aside, I have recommended them to others.

It took AHS a bit of time to come out and address the issue but we figured out it's not the water and it stopped leaking. However, if it’s something super urgent, AHS is not very timely. And the noise is one of those things that you won't necessarily hear right off the bat. The technician refused to acknowledge that there was an issue and was there for about three minutes then walked out. I ended up having to pay another person to come out and replace a part. AHS is good for easy repairs but if I need something out of the ordinary, sometimes I just call my own repair person and have him fix it. When my oven's control panel shorted and it stopped working, I submitted a claim and got the very first person out very quickly. Then the tech had to get a part. But it's now going into weeks and my oven is still not fixed. There was no way to email the repair person so it was on me to call him. But when I did, he wouldn't respond to me. Then, when I called AHS to tell them that the repair person hasn't called me back, I was on hold for two hours. I asked them never to send that contractor back to me. I understand that this part was hard to get because I talked to another repair person and I was told that the part needed was backordered. They even offered to could take mine and have it rebuilt. I also understand that challenges could happen but the lack of communication was the big problem. I finally got somebody that has been helpful and they're now telling me the ETAs.

I’ve filed claims with American Home Shield over the phone and it’s been horrific wait times—close to an hour. My experience with their reps are varied too. I’ve talked to reps who are the nicest people, but I’ve also talked to some who are the biggest jerks in the world. My most recent claim with AHS was for a coupling on the water faucets in our restrooms. The first person came out and wouldn't cover the claim because he said my water pressure caused the problem with some apparatus on my toilet. So I asked for a second opinion. AHS told me not to tell the person who’d come out to give the second opinion about the first one because they didn't want to sway his vote.
When the person came out, he was going to approve the claim. He called back in and talked to people on the other line. He was told what the first opinion was. And then, he turned around, changed his deal and said, "Oh yeah, it was the same thing." AHS denied the claim and hit me for $300 to fix my deal. I also had to pay $100 twice for both visits even though I got declined. AHS is supposed to pull the call to review it. They said that it takes some time, but I’m not hearing anything from them.
And the one before this claim was for the hot water heater. AHS also said the same thing, that the water pressure caused my hot water heater to go even though it was 21 years old and on its last leg. Water heaters have a shelf life of 10 to 12 years. AHS declined the claim and offered to give me a little money for disposal. I'm starting to think it's a racket and that the people who come out are better off for getting the claim denied because then they get the business. I'm not going to keep my warranty with AHS long term. I’d also tell people that could not afford the large item to go out in their home, Terminix might be worth it. But for those who have money, it may not be something that they’d want to do.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The warranty came with the house that I bought but they didn’t even tell me about the warranty until I got something in the mail saying they have it. When the sewer line had backed up, I called and it took me 20 minutes to get somebody to talk to. The wait time was long but it was not like there would have been other plumbers. Nobody would've been in the office at that point. So it was one call that took me 20 minutes instead of I don't know how many calls it would've taken me. Plus the guy let me say what I needed and what was going on. He didn't interrupt me and he listened. He also asked questions that were useful.
The plumbers got out here within 24 hours, which was wonderful and all I had to do was show up. I work within 15 minutes of my house so I asked the specialist from Home Shield to tell the guys to give me a call when they're about half an hour out. They got it and called, and I was there. They sent two guys who were really friendly, professional and polite. They looked at the problem and fixed it. They knew what they were doing and I couldn’t have been happier.
After the whole experience, I saw home much the warranty cost and even if I had paid for it, it had just paid for itself then. The plumber itself probably cost $300 and the warranty saved me all kinds of hassle. Being new to the area, I didn’t know a plumber to call or how much it would cost but I guarantee it cost more than the $75 that I had to pay. It was nice to have something that actually worked well. I have friends who have recently bought homes and other friends that are looking for homes and I told them to get the warranty. When you buy a house and move in, little things would go wrong and everything that is unplanned would come up. It was nice that one of those things was handled by somebody else. I was very happy with my interactions with AHS and with the company that they contracted with. I have no doubt that when I get the renewal notice, I would to renew the warranty. I really appreciate the job that they do.

I was having issues with the air conditioning. It was not cooling and I learned that because I have my AC and heating company come out for their annual cleaning inspection. Since I missed my AC, I just told them just do everything together and that’s when the tech informed me it looks as if my motor was going out. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out within 24 hours. The representatives were great and everything was done expeditiously.
My cousin said that the contractor that came out was very professional. He said everything looks good and I said, “Well, that’s probably because my AC people just came out and did the service and everything.” He said everything was working properly. He also said that there's no charge since he didn’t do anything, which he also told me via email. I was like, “Okay, no problem.” However, they then took the $125 deductible. The AC company told me to reach out to American Home Shield and see if they would waive it and the AHS rep said no. Other than that, I was impressed how fast they responded to everything. From me submitting the claim and having someone come out, I appreciate that.

Recently, the toilet in the master bathroom lost its back seal. I called AHS and the repair has made my life better but I forgot to tell the technician about one thing. It's not tripping the thing in the toilet itself so a lot of times it does fill up to the point it's supposed to. Another time when my washer was overflowing, a different person was sent out by AHS and he did a fantastic job. He was polite and cleaned out my vent that went to the roof on my washer
I've lived in my house for 27 years and have had the warranty for it. I'm a realtor too and I use AHS all the time. I've been very pleased over the years and I've never had a problem with them. I also love their staff Cynthia. Occasionally, years and years ago, there were daily questions or one of my clients would call in, and Cynthia always went back.

When I cleaned up from underneath my sink, I found that there was water everywhere. Submitting a claim to AHS was super easy, which I did online. I requested service and the plumber they sent me is the same plumber they sent me before who happens to be the best plumber in the world as far as I’m concerned. The whole process was very easy. The contractor was extremely fast to respond, unlike most companies I’ve had when I dealt with AHS. However, I’ve been to the point where I didn't want to keep AHS anymore ‘cause I constantly have issues that people don’t come out forever. They take every minute that they’re allowed to call me and schedule if they even call me to schedule. Sometimes, I end up having to call them.
These people are super on top of the issue and they get me in as quick as possible. The guy I happened to have and came out both times, one for a toilet, one for a pipe, not only said that he was on his way, he was also early. He’s able to quickly figure out what the problem was, fixed it super quick, and was extremely friendly. Everything has been fine. The process of getting the work order submitted was very fast and the last two things have been stellar. AHS has gotten a lot better.

We had an issue with the well at one of my properties in the Fayetteville, Georgia area and I called it in to AHS. Their rep took all the information and put in the claim. They attempted to call the vendor while I was on the phone with them but they were unsuccessful getting them to answer. We ended up having to cancel that particular vendor because they couldn't get in enough time. Then we had another contractor come out after that. They were informative and worked fast plus they talked to us the whole way through. Since the repair, the performance of our appliance has been good. I enjoy having AHS and I appreciate them. They respond fast and I could always call and message them online. I would recommend them and tell a friend to get the home warranty.

We have been with American Home Shield for a long time and the contractors they've sent were good 80% of the time. While I feel some of them just want their fee and they're just going to rig it until it breaks again and not actually fix the problem, some guys are really helpful, like the one they sent when we had two plumbing issues recently. He even showed how to fix one of them.
But before that, our experience with American Home Shield was awful. It was the worst ever. They wanted to replace the whole air conditioner because it's old and there's not much they can do to update it. But it's still running. We haven't broken it. And they're only going to cover $75 of a $3,000 unit. We have been paying for 15 years so what's the point of even using them? Also, we have one guy come out and say that we need all this stuff, and then another guy came out after they have ordered the parts, who said we didn't need those stuff. It was a totally different company, so we don't know what we're going to get, which is frustrating.
I've also had so many problems getting through to them via the chat or call. Like when I had to call with the air conditioner, I was on the phone and was on hold both times for an hour just trying to get through. It was better though with the plumbing. If we have to replace the air conditioner and they're not going to pay for any of it, we would probably cancel because you can get a handyman for $40 an hour. It may not be perfect, but by the time you pay the fee, and then they're not going to cover a lot of things, it would've paid the same thing.

What a scam. I purchase an older home last February along with the AHS plan. Over the past year, I have contacted AHS for four different claims, a dishwasher that doesn't clean or dry at all, a refrigerator with a rusted out freezer making a constant loud noise, termites, and faulty exterior electrical outlet. The termites weren't covered, which I found out after about an hour on hold. Technicians came out for the applicants and said that they still function, even though very poorly, so not covered.
Last week I booked an electrician to deal with the faulty exterior outlet. The service called immediately, asked the nature of the job (which I told them an outdoor outlet) and booked the appointment. I paid the $75 to AHS. The technicians arrived on time, but IMMEDIATELY told me it wasn't covered by my policy since it was outside. They charged me another $55 to replace the broken outlet. I checked my policy AGAIN and the exclusions were listed, but nothing about the exterior. I called both AHS and the electrical company to recoup the lost money and was basically told, "Too bad." In speaking with the 'we aren't going to help you' AHS associate on the phone, she pointed out the small print in another area of the contract that mentioned "confinement of home" language...not outlined in the Electrical coverage area. So very frustrating. AHS keeps sending me notices to renew my policy...at a $200 increase on top of that. Ha. I'm saving my money.
I understand your concerns with the claims you have filed under your AHS warranty as well as the items that were not covered. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

November 11, 2017 I waiting 70 minutes on hold to report a problem with three appliances. AHS confirmed coverage and assigned Tech #1 (The Supreme Service Group). Tech #1 never contacted me or set up an appointment. I called AHS and after 92 minutes on hold they assigned Tech #2 (GM Appliances). I had to call Tech #2 three times to get an appointment, which was set for 12 days later. Tech #2 ordered parts and never called back. I called three times and did not receive a response. I called AHS, waited on hold for 58 minutes, and they were able to reach Tech #2. We set the appointment date for January 5th. They asked that we be there so I stayed home from work. At 2:30pm, they called to say they weren't coming. From that time until now, I have not heard from them. They do not pick up the phone. They do not respond to voicemails.
AHS reps have referred this issue to "Contractor Relations" twice - each time telling me that someone from AHS would call on the next business day. AHS has never called me back. I am currently on hold (51 minutes so far). A rep did pick up at the 30 minute mark, but she asked to put me on a "brief hold" while she researched my account. A few minutes later, she put me back in the queue. I know because the choice menu started all over. This is a textbook example of breach of contract and poor customer service. I would love someone to contact me and resolve this problem.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your appliances repaired. I have emailed you my contact information and I would be glad to speak with you in an effort to resolve the issues you have experienced.

I would like to update my review with the new development. AHS did later reach out and send out a different contractor after they tried to reach the previous contractor and didn't get through. The new contractor showed up timely, diagnosed the problem and replaced the furnace (we do have to pay a significant portion of the expense, based on the terms of our AHS contract). I guess the previous contractor is just one single event of a bad contractor that happens to be in the AHS network. Our experience with the later contractor had been fine and that's also in the AHS network of contractors. So if you have issue with the contractor, and you are waiting more than 48 hours, contract AHS rather than the contractor. In summary, the furnace problem have been solved and AHS helped a great deal in this experience. Nice to know that we have heat in the house our pipes will not freeze and our children won't be cold. Giving a 4 star because of the initial glitch but eventual result is good. Plus, I would give consumer affairs a 5 star for providing this platform. :)

We purchased a home and at the same time the AHS warranty. A month later the furnace start to make funny noise and considering it's in the middle of winter I really need to make sure it works and continue to do so. So I called up the phone number of AHS, long wait and the voice recording suggest to use online system. I followed and submitted a service request online.
Now five days later, we are still waiting for a service personnel. The company that was set up never could be reached, and AHS never could be reached. We are on the northern east coast with cold weather in the middle of winter, the noise is getting louder, and the floor started to shake when the furnace turns on. I am afraid the whole thing is going to fall apart leaving us with no heating yet no response from AHS or the service contractor appointed. Very disappointed. I am going to contact a contractor myself and see how this matter could be resolved with AHS but my first priority is to make sure I have a functioning home.
David,
Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your furnace request. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist.

I had some problems with my heating unit, which could be the heat pump, and I gave American Home Shield a call. The interaction with the claims rep was great. The first contractor was just as nice as he could be. He did everything. He had a couple of things overlooked, but overall, he did well. I had a second issue, the same issue with the same problem, and they sent out another contractor. And once again, he was very efficient. He did not overlook anything and he fixed everything. He was very professional and the performance of the unit has been good since the repair and it has made the home a lot more comfortable.
One of the things that I didn’t like was the rep said that she was going to expedite the call and they would call me back but I was unable to hear from them, and then I wound up calling them back and suggested that we wait until Monday because it was a long weekend. But it was fine. American Home Shield is a good company. I’m thinking about keeping it because I just purchased this home and the warranty came with the home. It doesn’t cost a whole lot.

My refrigerator's motor freezer stopped working. That cost the bottom of the refrigerator to stop being cold, therefore, it became very warm. We had to get rid of a lot of food. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield through their website and it was so quick. Everything comes to you quick but one time, I was on hold for 45 minutes before I actually spoke to someone. I absolutely hated calling American Home Shield. But then over time when I would call again, I will be on hold maybe half an hour but I try not to call. I try to speak to just doing stuff online.
American Home Shield had to come out and replace the motor upfront so that way, that will fix the bottom part of the refrigerator as well. We had to wait for the parts but that was around the holiday and that didn’t take long right after Christmas. The following week, they came out to replace the parts. The techs were pretty good and I had no problems at all. They come in professional, take care of the problem, listen to my needs and they do what they have to do.
American Home Shield can cover your appliances and whatever else you choose at a reasonable and affordable price per month. What I like about it is that I know I’m only going to pay according to my plan. I’m only going to pay 125 when they come out to fix whatever there is that needs to be fixed, opposed to putting out hundreds of dollars to have something repaired by someone else outside the plan.

I submitted my claim over the phone. Submitting a claim online because doesn’t give me the feeling that anybody’s actually going to pay attention to me or answer me back. I like to call and talk to a person. American Home Shield put you on hold for a long time before you’re able to get on and that part is not good. I know they want to automate it online but it’s just not the same. And when you call, it takes forever to pick up and actually talk to a live person.
And it’s hit or miss. Sometimes you get somebody that’s good and sometimes you get someone that doesn’t have much interest. And I have three investment properties and my own house so I have four policies with them. In our investment apartment, the microwave was not working. American Home Shield sent out someone to try and repair it. It couldn’t be repaired because the parts were not available anymore.
American Home Shield had to replace the unit with a new one and they did. It was a little bit time consuming only because there was a whole process of when they have to replace where they keep emailing you and you have to order whatever it is online and go back and forth and then confirm when it’s ready and then the delivery. When they delivered, they couldn’t install it. They had to come back so they have the unit sitting in their apartment for about a week before the installation. It was a different person that came later to deliver it and then a different one to install it. It worked out but it did take a little bit longer than I think it should. AHS needs to be a little bit quicker or less bureaucratic to get the whole replacement of the unit whenever they have to replace something.

I had a plumbing leak in the kitchen and the plumber from Allstate Plumbing came out. He said that he couldn’t repair the leak because the leak would recur and American Home Shield would have to give me credit to buy a new faucet, and then he'd come back and replace the faucet. I called AHS and they said that they wouldn't do this, but instead they would replace the faucet, and I had no choice in the matter. That was disappointing because I would have taken the $50 credit for a new faucet, then I would have chosen an upgraded faucet and gotten a different plumbing company to replace the old faucet with the upgraded one.
The plumber came back with a fine faucet but it was not what I would have chosen, although it matched everything in my kitchen. He installed it, but even if he tried his best he couldn’t get it any straighter. The faucet was put on cockeyed and water got spilled all over the counter and onto the hardwood floors. I complained to AHS about this and they said that I would have to use the same contractor, and the contractor said that they would have to send out the same guy. But I said that I wasn't going to make these people do something that they couldn't do. After we went back and forth for two weeks, AHS chose a different plumbing company, Crown Plumbing, whose tech came out and did an excellent job.
My whole time with AHS, in getting through to them and contacting them, has been horrendous. They put me on hold and I couldn’t get through to them sometimes. It wasn't my first horrible experience with them, though, because I previously had a claim with them for a toilet problem and I had to make three calls to have this problem fixed and, every time, they gave me different plumbers that did different things.
AHS needs to get their act together. First of all, they must do better vetting of vendors. Also, they want customers to go to their website, but if I do this and I try to do something, it’s inadequate. It doesn't let me have a dialogue and I don’t get to explain my issue. There’s more to their website than pushing a button and it's very frustrating to deal with. They should have a comment box and a live chat option there. But I had a good relationship with their sales rep, John, who’s a very nice man. Although I’m very dissatisfied with the overall service of AHS and dealing with them was very challenging, since I'm with Coldwell Banker and we brand AHS and I'm supposed to be selling their service to my clients, I have to recommend them.
Jan, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

My last service call was not very satisfactory, which led to me to cancel my service with American Home Shield a little over a year ago for my three properties. It involved six service calls for one appliance in the kitchen of one of my rental homes. Several companies came out to repair the dishwasher. A couple of the calls fell within the 60 days where they covered a service call again at no charge, but they were still not able to resolve the problem. The dishwasher was never repaired, so I finally just replaced it myself. I then wrote a letter to American Home Shield customer service somewhere in Iowa and after a few phone calls as well as emails back and forth, they agreed to reimburse me for the dishwasher, which they did.
I needed something better so I canceled my service and went to another company. It was mainly for my tenants, since the lady in the house with the dishwasher was a student, and she was not able to arrange her schedule whenever needed for service calls. It was a burden on her, as well as a burden on me since I wasn’t able to take care of the problem she had.
But I discovered that the other company I went to operated a lot differently from American Home Shield. I’ve had one experience with them which involved my personal residence. While I ended up with a result that was not completely satisfactory, it opened my eyes to how the other company worked. I could see that it wasn’t going to work for my tenants so I canceled those policies and took my properties back to American Home Shield. And I didn't expect how easy it was for me to reinstate my policies.

I got AHS with the house and paid for an additional two years with them. During winter, I went up to check my furnace and found a wire burned off from the motherboard. I called American Home Shield and I told them the brand name of the heating system, what I found and that I needed it fixed sooner versus later. They found a company and the contractors showed up on time. They figured out that it wasn’t just the wire and that the cylinder on the gas exhaust was not turning. The wire had been sending the electrical current to turn it but it was defective that’s why the wire burned off. They took a couple of hours to source the part. Then they came back, fixed it and it’s been working fine since then. However, at that point, my garage door fell apart but that’s not covered under the home warranty. Relatively and as expected, it was a good service from American Home Shield. They’ve done what was covered under my warranty.

I have AHS for my house and another for my mother. Recently, the washer started malfunctioning. The contractor came out a few times and had it repaired. But a couple of days later, it started doing the same old thing. After the first couple of times that the contractor came out, I kept telling him about my research from how the washer was acting. He was in denial and said that he has been doing it for 40 years. He came out and did what he did before again and put some other part on. Then the washer went back doing the same little problem again.
I called American Home Shield and asked them to send out another contractor which they did. The next contractor who came out diagnosed it with exactly what I had researched the problem would be. He said that it was too costly to replace the part so AHS bought a new one and replaced the whole washer. After that, everything went smoothly, and we’ve been happy ever since. With this particular contractor, I’ve used them the last couple of times, and my kitchen has been good. But I need to get back to AHS on the latest repair that the contractor did. He filled up a hole, and it looks like it might still be leaking. There had been someone in the past whom I thought had done a good job, but then six months later my appliance broke down again since they did stupid things. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it happens, you are going to spend over an hour before you get a hold of somebody. That is the most aggravating thing in this planet when you have a problem with your house and you need immediate help or support. But once you get someone, it’s okay. I recently had a couple of claims on my spa heater that wouldn’t work right. American Home Shield sent out Sun Bright Tools. And they looked at the spa heater and said that the circuit board was fried. They couldn’t fix it and the whole thing needed to be replaced. They quoted me $3,500 to replace it and said my home warranty company wouldn't cover it. My friend who works for a pool company in Texas tried to get me a new heater through his connection with that company so it would cost me less money as he can’t come and work in my pool. While we were doing all of that, he suggested that I get a second opinion from AHS because he didn't think what Sun Bright said sounded right. I called AHS and told them to send out another contractor as I'd like a second opinion.
AHS sent Pool Buddies as the second contractor. They came out and said that all it needed was to replace a new sticky pad panel-thing. I was so impressed with them. The spa heater works fine and I've used it three times since then. I had only one service call but AHS sent two companies. And I called AHS a week and a half ago because I keep getting emails that I owe $75 to Pool Buddies which I didn't because it was a second opinion for the exact same problem. The AHS rep told me that I didn’t owe a second $75 and that she’d take care of it but I’m still getting emails.
Also, it was the second time that AHS sent Sun Bright Tools. A year and a half ago, they came for my spa filter and they said that it was broken and I needed a new one. They quoted me $1,800 to buy it from them. I called to get a second opinion, and American Home Shield sent out a second contractor who fixed the issue and it was a seal and it was covered. Sun Bright is still in their service which I didn't like. But still, I would refer American Home Shield.

We had a heater repair recently which I submitted that claim online to AHS. Their website was reasonably easy to navigate. I started talking to them on the 7th of December and it had taken a week and a half to get the contractor out here because there was an issue in trying to find someone in our local area that would actually handle it. We live in Athens, Georgia which is a fairly good little area.
The first guy that they assigned to come out said that they didn’t handle that sort of furnace and didn’t even know what kind of furnace it was. So, the distance for them to travel was too far. The second guy that they assigned was four hours out in South Carolina. And then, a third company that was about an hour away, came and fixed it. The technician was quick to diagnose the issue and had the part with them which was amazing. They were in and out fairly quickly. We also had a connection difficulty between our thermostat and furnace itself so we replaced the thermostat too. Now, we have a non-technologically connected thermostat. The furnace comes on and goes off like it supposed to since it doesn’t have to wait for the internet.

He fixed the issue and was gone in 15-20 minutes. We couldn't use the bathroom prior to him coming but now, we can. It was awesome. This is a new house for us and our previous owners paid the $500 for the home warranty but to get somebody out here, we still have to pay a $75 fee, which doesn't make sense when we're paying the $500 upfront for it.

My appliances are GE, so I've been lucky that AHS has sent the GE rep. It's been the same most of the time and the service was pretty good. The refrigerator is about 13 years old. I was sure it wouldn't be performing like new but since the repair, it became a lot better. However, I wish the deductible wasn’t as high. I've been with AHS for many years and before it was only $40, not $100. It's getting expensive, but it's still a good service. But if the deductible is not as high, then at least it would encourage me to call for service instead of doing it myself sometimes. Other than that, I would recommend AHS.

I called American Home Shield for my dishwasher and they were very good. But they appear to be getting some bad reputation regarding the wait time and they spend a great deal of time with their client on the telephone, but I didn't have a problem with that. Once I get a rep on the phone, I know that I’m going to get a response and I can very easily explain to them my claim. They had answered information on identifying the contract holder and then they would find a contractor and contact us.
For my recent dishwasher claim, the contractor came to my house, evaluated what the problem was and said that they would get back to us and tell us what they were going to do. The next day, they contacted us and said that it was going to need a new control panel. They contacted American Home Shield and American Home Shield contacted us and told us that they were ordering the part and it would be delivered to the contractor.
When the part was delivered, the contractor contacted us, came out and he had all the proper tools to do the work. He knew exactly what he was doing, and told me what he was going to do and didn't waste any time. The control panel was replaced, then he ran the equipment to make sure it works. He ran it twice and the dishwasher was 100% functional. He left with no debris, and took the empty boxes and the old control panel with him. The contractors that American Home Shield sends are always friendly, very confident and they don't waste any time.
When we bought our home, I did a lot of research and spoke to my real estate agent who gave us the names of people we could contact to verify with American Home Shield. We called two other people on the list and both of them were very helpful and said American Home Shield is the best. I would recommend American Home Shield to anyone who has considered buying a new home and to anybody that owned a house today and doesn’t have them as their contractor.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was pretty expedient with returning the phone call and setting up a time that was appropriate. My husband was pleased with what the contractors told him, something with the commode. It had been there too long and they had to order some parts or pieces of something. They told him the date and time that they set up to come back. They have not completed their service yet and are supposed to come back tomorrow. I told my daughter about AHS. She's changing over from her company and I'm trying to debate and help her decide whether or not to go with American Home Shield or somebody else. Last year I had a problem with the AC people that came out and it just got fixed again this year. We were going back and forth, back and forth. The guy left something off the AC, but he didn't put it on the report when he turned it in.

My wife and I are very happy with American Home Shield. They honor the warranty and do what they said they would do. Our most recent claim was for our refrigerator that wasn't cooling. I filed the claim online and it was easy. I could just click on pre-dropdown menus. Now, everything's working fine.

Our heat pump wasn't working upstairs and AHS didn’t fix the problem, so I've got to call them back. They called out a plumber and the plumber said that it was not the heat pump but electrical. So, they sent out an electrician who had only been working for a week and he said that he doesn't know and that the box was all rusted out. The box is 30 years old and it's outside of the house at about shoulder level.
With all the weather going on the last two weeks, it took them a couple of days to call me back. All of a sudden, they showed up at the house without calling me and I was in a meeting. I didn’t hear from them for a couple of days and then they called back and we finally got them out there. And then, I got a call yesterday that said they were not covering it due to water damage to the electrical box. However, it is not water damage since there was no flood and I have water damage coverage. I was planning on calling them but I'm busy. AHS is usually good but right now, I'll have to wait and see how they handle this as this experience is up in the air right now. So, I'm not really happy right now.

American Home Shield has dealt with some issues very, very well although they are getting very restrictive and very expensive. Also, they're very responsive and they come out within a couple of days but if they detect that the problem of the appliance was something else like the power supply, then we have to go through the whole process again to get somebody to come out to deal with the power supply. So, for troubleshooting and fixing a problem that is not immediately obvious, it needs two trips. But other than that, I'm good. You have to look very carefully at the coverage and your contract because there are exclusions for refrigerators and washing machines and you have to pay more for those.

Towards the end of November, my microwave started going out so I called American Home Shield and put in a claim for it. I got a call within a couple of days and the contractor came out as soon as possible. He came in December and he was nice and very helpful. My microwave has gone out all the way but he did everything to figure out what the problem was. And then he figured out the problem, had the parts ordered, and told me it was going to take a couple of weeks. Knowing people get backed up, I told him I want it done before Christmas and so they got it in as soon as possible.
I had the part within a week. He came out and repaired the microwave. The week they got it in is the same day they replaced it. And everything has been working since. I have it checked for myself. The guy who came out to repair made sure that everything was working before he left. He even put a tank of water in it to see if it heats up. I just got AHS in October, and I used it one time and it was an awesome experience. I was very pleased. The repair was in a timely manner so I'm appreciative. I have already referred a friend to them.

A pipe had burst from my outside faucet the first time I had to use American Home Shield. The guy came out, explained what the issue was and told me he'll be back the following week after the water had dried up. He came back and fixed the piece. Then more recently, right before Christmas, a part of my kitchen electrical just went out so I went online and put in a service request online on the American Home Shield website. They sent me an immediate email, advised me of who my contractor would be and that they will be reaching out. I expected that since it was right before Christmas no one was going to call me right back but they did tell me they would call.
The contractor called me about 8:00 on Tuesday right after Christmas and said they will be at my house Wednesday between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00, they were there by 9:30 and they fixed everything in less than 40 minutes. The guy explained what I thought the issue was, it was not. It turned out it was a burnt wire in a socket on another wall. I told him that it didn't trigger my circuit breaker and he said it wouldn't because there was something in the mechanism to make sure the circuit breaker doesn't cut back on because that live wire had burnt out. It was great.

I had an issue with my garbage disposal, so I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. Everything was good. The claims representative and contractor were professional and courteous. When the contractor came in, he told me what the issue was and what he would do to fix it. And then he did it and left within 45 minutes. Since the repair, the garbage disposal was running fine and I was able to use my sink again.
The only issue I found with this claim and the one before it was when I placed the order, it took about four business days for them to get someone wound up, although both of my claims were right around the holidays—the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Still, this company’s services were great. The last two issues I’ve had were resolved. American Home Shield saved me from having painful cost out of pocket from home appliance repairs.

We had some issues with the knobs on our gas cooktop and the vendor who was assigned to this account required us to do a lot of our homework on our end before he came out. And it didn't necessarily result in a shorter turn time for problem resolution. The vendor worked directly with my husband. He said that the vendor called him and made him go to the cooktop, get a flashlight and try to read things under there. He had already provided the model number and everything associated with the product. But this was the convenience that we pay the service call of American Home Shield for, for the vendor to come out here and look at that information. Also, the vendor replaced two of the knobs which were not covered under American Home Shield. Last night, I was trying to put two of the knobs back on but they were not staying on. I'm going to have to call again.
Oher than that, my overall experience with American Home Shield is usually really good. I like them a lot. In this particular instance, it was just that an individual vendor. There were also some vendors that complained that they don't make enough money through American Home Shield to do these claims to which I'm like, "Don't be a partner." There should be a thorough vetting of some vendors that may not be as happy with being a part of American Home Shield.
I tell my friends that if they have a pool, the warranty pays for itself within the first three months. The convenience for us is we don't have to shop for a variety of different vendors. I also tell my friends that if they don't like the vendor that they get or the vendor can't go to where they are, AHS will give them another vendor. And when friends tell me that they've heard scandals about American Home Shield not paying claims, I tell them that I've had AHS at two different properties now and it's nothing I experienced.

We bought our new house and it came with a refrigerator that was installed. We haven’t been here for two weeks when the compressor went out in the refrigerator. We’re shocked since the refrigerator wasn't even that old. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and it went fairly. AHS then started sending me emails and alerts like, "You've opened a claim and this is what's going to happen. We're going to send somebody out and it was assigned to so and so company." That's where it started to go into the left field.
The first company that came out couldn't do it. The rep said, "We can't get out there until next week sometime." I told him, "Wait a minute. I need somebody out. The refrigerator is dead. Everything is going bad inside of it." Then he said, "Let me try and give it to somebody else." They moved the repair job to another contractor, but that company couldn’t do it too, so the first company had to find somebody else.
The third company then said, "We can't get out there initially until for about two days." I called AHS back and said, "This is kind of ridiculous. I'd like to get somebody out there quicker because, obviously, all the ice has melted. Now, there's water everywhere, and all our food is going bad. What can we do about this?” The rep said, "We got 72 hours to get somebody out there," and so, we waited.
Then the contractors finally showed up and diagnosed the problem. They were just really nice and great. We even kept their number just in case anything else ever happens. They said we needed a new compressor, so they got the part on order because they don’t have one at the moment. Then, we didn't hear anything for a while. We called the repair facility and asked, "What's going on?" The rep told me, "American Home Shield won't let us replace because they want to order it themselves." AHS wanted to try and get the part somewhere else for cheaper. But then, that went for a week and a half. When we finally got the part, the contractors came out and replaced it. It took forever to repair our refrigerator and we're living out of an ice chest for two weeks. But since the refrigerator has been fixed, it’s working great.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the issues.

They were here for 45 minutes and everything is working well so far. I talked to the heating and cooling guy because I never had a heat pump before, and he explained to me how they worked, so I learned a lot just from talking with him about it. I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for dryer replacement and that went fine. The only difficulty I have with them is getting a hold of someone. When I call, it's always a long wait. They're so busy or lines are down. On a certain occasion, I just set the phone on the counter and put it on speaker. It was almost two hours before I got a live person. Also, there's one time when the rep said, "You've reached the wrong person, I will get you the correct number. I'm gonna put you on hold." I heard music forever and forever and she never came back. And then, if I go online to put in a claim, I don't know who they're going to call, when they're going to call or it's an emergency, whether or not they're going to get right back to me. So, I like humans. I'm in my 80's and there are a lot of us out there who are not comfortable with the computer. American Home Shield’s phone service needs to be more friendly and accommodating to those people.
That's absolutely the only negative experience I have had with this company. They take care of my needs once I get them. I have always been pleased with the contractors that have come to the house. I've not had a single complaint that I can recall. If I did, it was so minor, I've forgotten it. They were professional and they knew what they were doing. Every repair that they have done has been correct. If they couldn't do it, then I knew it before they left and had told me what they were going to do. So, I continue to join American Home Shield each year and have recommended it out to other people.

We submitted a request to have our water heater repaired because the pilot light kept going out. The company A-1 Plumbing out of Lubbock was assigned to complete the repair. The technician arrived on January 15 at the end of the day and determined that the water heater needed to be replaced due to age and noncompliance with city building codes. He contacted American Home Shield and got the repairs approved. The technician informed us that he would return Wednesday to change out the water heater and to relight the pilot as needed. He did not arrive on Wednesday and when I called to find out where he was after waiting all day he told me that he was waiting for the parts to be approved by the home warranty company. He finally called on Friday morning and ask if he could come by and I told him yes that my husband was home.
At 3:00 pm my husband called and said that no one had come by all day. I contacted the technician who claimed that he went on to the next person on the list because he didn't know if anyone was at home. I told him that I had said there was as someone there earlier and he told me that he was headed that way. His response was that he had to move on and would try to get to it and then he hung up. He showed up at the house just before 5:00 pm and began replacing the water heater. Once it had been replaced he determined that he could not get the pilot light to stay lit long enough to get the gas turned on. He said that he would need to go to the store when they opened on Saturday morning and then left. He returned to my house around 9:30 am on Saturday and began replacing all the parts on the new heater trying to get the pilot to stay lit.
After about 30 minutes he told me that he couldn't get it to work, that he had only had this problem one other time before but did not know how that situation turned out because the other people called out another plumber to fix the problem. He said that he would try to figure out something and let me know when he did. I ask him how long that would take and when he was going to fix the water heater and he just shrugged and walk out of my house. I called American Home Shield at 11:30 to find out if we could get another technician to come out and complete the repair so that we could have hot water in our house. I was informed that A-1 Plumbing did not have information about the repair issues nor did they know the name of the technician assigned to the repairs. I was told that until the technician submitted the issues he was having they could not reassign the repair to another company.
We had to go to a hotel during the weekend, spending $200 to shower and let our children bathe. I called American Home Shield on Monday morning to find out if they had been in contact with the plumber and they called but no one answered at A-1 Plumbing and they said that without talking to the technician about the problems he was having. They could not send someone out to repair the problem. My husband contacted the plumber and he said again that he didn't know how to fix the problem, claiming that he was waiting for American Home Shield to approve repairing the gas line to increase the pressure to the line and would be by sometime to make those repairs.
Every time we contact American Home Shield they have taken no steps to contact the company or rectify this situation, they refuse to allow us to speak to a supervisor or someone who could make decisions other than to tell us that they have to wait for the assigned plumber to contact them before they can assign someone to fix this issue.

We were told by the HVAC person the cost of Freon was $150.00 per pound and American Home Shield would only cover $10.00 a pound. Needless to say we were ANGRY... We needed to pay $1,260.00 and American Home Shield would pay $90.00, WOW what coverage. We were with another home warranty and switched to American Home Shield because they have the best reputation in the industry. The most difficult claim I had with AHS was with my plumbing issues. We have all copper fixtures in bathrooms and I felt that the people they sent out were really unreliable. They came from a long distance and we live in rural Georgia up in the mountains. They can only come out a certain day of the week. Then when they could come out they would cancel or they say, “We’re going to be out Thursday. Oh, there was a mix up in the office.” I would wait all day for them and they wouldn’t come. We went on and on.
The guy finally came out and he was just unbelievable. He was new to the company and he seemed to be afraid to make a decision or work on the copper. He basically called the owner of the company and said, “You know, I think all these faucets need replacing.” Copper faucets are really expensive. My husband didn’t feel that they needed replacing and he thought that there could be something done. But they said, “No. We can’t order parts and we can’t do anything.”
I felt that the plumber was not forthcoming and not the best that could be. He came back and he was here for about five hours, charged me $500 and pretty much left without fixing much of anything. Now I got to find a private plumber to come and finish, which is going to end up costing me a whole lot more than what I was given. I wanted to get a second opinion on it but it was so difficult to get anybody out here that I felt, “Well, maybe we should just work through this.”
This has been going on for six months and I took a buy out from American Home Shield. I’m in the process of trying to get things fixed, trying to fix what we can and replace what we can’t. American Home Shield was more than fair. I moved 23 times so I have lots of experience with home warranty companies. However, I sometimes feel that the contractors they get are not the best. We also had a heating problem and we used someone. They were absolutely fabulous. Then two days after he came, it stopped working again and I quickly put in a claim. The lady from the place quickly called me back and promised to have somebody out, which she did. I was very pleased with them and that was a very positive experience.
Also I tried to put my claims in online and that works if it’s a new claim. I could have a plumbing stoppage in the next day and another. But it won’t let me go through because it says I already put in a claim for a plumbing stoppage. If you ever have to get a hold of AHS you’re on the phone for a minimum of an hour to two waiting. So I wish AHS had more accessibility and better contractors.

Seeing that it was on my agenda of things I could do, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor they sent was really nice. He looked at my outlet and said that the reason it was loose on the wall was that it needed some extra part. There was no need to replace the whole box. He made sure that it was tight, but it didn't really fix the problem because he didn't do that little extra part thing. It was my first time I had anybody out. And while it wasn't successful as I've hoped, I understood why it could be different than it was.

I had a problem with my garage door opener and I looked at my policy and it said, “Garage door opener covered”. I called American Home Shield for two and a half weeks before I finally got someone at that location to even answer the phone. When the contractor came out, they said I had the wrong plan, and “Well, we got to fix that if that’s the case”, and I changed to a 10-item plan. But, I’ve had these guys for 11 years at my other house and I never had a problem with anything that I needed them for, that’s including the garage door, and this time, they changed the policy on me.
When I got it, I didn’t realize that they had changed the policy, so I just flipped to the page where that would be, and it said covered, so as far as I’m concerned, I was covered. I called and called them and when I finally got a hold of them, I found out that I had to get a new contract because the garage door opener, the washer, and the dryer weren’t covered. They didn’t talk to me to see what I needed the policy for. I told them I needed the policy and they said, “Okay, we’ll send one out to you. It’ll cost you $32 dollars a month.”
I eventually got a garage door company out there. They had to replace the track, wheels, everything but the door because it had been installed incorrectly. It had chewed up the gears inside the garage door opener and it was mounted too high. So when it tried to push down the door, it was not supposed to go any further, and that’s six inches above the floor. It would just push it and grind on it till it got down. That was a chain driver system and I had one spring that looked like a snake going along the ground, with all the twists and turns in it. I could have just changed one and waited for the other one to go in a few weeks, but it cost me $1000. The opener wasn’t the cheapest opener either.

My most recent claim was for an issue with my microwave. I called American Home Shield and explained the issue that I was having, then they subcontracted it and someone else called me. I've always had a pleasant conversation with the AHS representative. However, interacting with the contractor was a challenge. Initially, they had to see if the microwave can be repaired, but I ended up going through three different companies for the same result, which was the microwave couldn't be repaired. We had it replaced which was definitely great for me, considering that I'm a single parent who doesn't always have time to bake or fry something. It's easy to just put something in the microwave.
AHS is a great benefit and their price is reasonable. Each time I place an order, I pay a fee for it. Then if someone comes out two or three times, it does not cost any additional money. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to friends because once a house becomes a certain age, they would be experiencing issues with their appliances, so it's great to have someone that they could talk to that could come and diagnose whatever the issue is and then replace or have it repaired.

The heater was not working, and making the claim with American Home Shield was easy. I just did it online. The contractor fixed the issue. We both smelled the smell of heat. He left and it wasn’t working again. I was a little concerned making the heater claim especially when it didn’t work the next day, but the contractor came out and fixed it. He immediately determined that I needed a new thermostat. So, he went ahead and changed that.
I had a problem in the beginning with my pool getting done, but that has since been resolved. It broke down in the fall. I made that claim and the contractor came out and said it was fixed. I don’t use the hot tub very often, but a couple of months later during the holidays my family was there and it wasn’t working again. My pool guys said that I needed a new motor and since I had a home warranty, it would be best to go through them for that. When I went to American Home Shield, the people who came out determined that I did not need a pool pump or motor. So, I ended up paying another copay because I was just out of the 60 day period of noticing that it wasn’t working again.
The second time the guy came out, I was pretty firm with him and he determined that the pool pump was working really bad. It was really slow and sluggish. It was working way too harder than it should have been. So then, the second time around, they finally fixed that but I had to pay for a second copay. I was pretty upset. One way that American Home Shield could be better is by partnering with better vendors. American Home Shield should want to be with people who satisfy us as well as them. If the contractors don’t fix the issue the first time, then they're just coming out and wasting American Home Shield’s money as well as my deductible. American Home Shield should listen to their customers when it comes to satisfaction based on the people they're sending to our homes.

In dealing with American Home Shield you should look closely at the repair cost. We had an ongoing issue with the air conditioner and they were coming out at least once a year. I would pay the $75 but they would just put bandage on it and get it going temporarily. It needed to be replaced and I got tired messing with it so I had to go and replace it myself. But more recently I had two claims at the same time. We had two parts come in for the dryer and it got fixed all right.
The other claim is for the dishwasher and the technician had to order a bunch or parts. We just barely fell short of the threshold for having that replaced altogether. The technician will do the repairs all at the same time because he comes up from Birmingham which is about an hour and a half drive. We've got all the parts in except for one, which is on backorder but it has been three weeks now and we're still waiting to find out on that. That aside the technicians have been very personable. They explained the situation and they've been real good.

The claims process with American Home Shield is simple. Recently, I filed for an electrical issue. The technician that was sent out was very respectful when he came to my house and everything was fine, but the contractual agreement didn’t allow him to really fix my problem. My exterior electrical outlets are still not working and I didn’t get anything from my $75. I’m going to have to pay American Home Shield an extra charge to have it figured out. The issue wasn’t something that could be diagnosed. I don’t know if it was his fault or American Home Shield’s, but it was zero helpful and I still have no idea why I have no power outside of my house. I work for Terminix and we have a construction crew. As much as I hate to say it, for me to resolve this, I’m going to have my crew come out and look. That may be a common problem with electrical issues.
I work for the same company, ServiceMaster, and I’ve kept their services. But if it wasn’t for that, I would have let American Home Shield go. The contractors that come out often are not there to fix the problem as much as they are trying to sell me something else. I understand that because we have marketing in our company as well. I had a heater malfunction, and in order for me to get the blower motor fixed, the air conditioning company tried to sell me some gadget for my AC drip pan which had nothing to do with the problem I had. But if I didn’t have that, supposedly, I wouldn’t qualify for the insurance. I called American Home Shield and that wasn’t the case. Excuses like that are a little disheartening when you’re dealing with a warranty.
There could be better guidelines on what they’re going to repair and what they’re not, so we know as a consumer what’s going to be covered. Also, American Home Shield could be a little more accessible when we are having an issue. I had a hard time getting a hold of anybody who could tell me if it was covered or not, almost like either they didn’t understand their job or they were afraid to say anything. I wasn’t impressed with the staff when I called in to resolve that.
Terry, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

My experience with American Home Shield has been terrible. I have spent half an hour on the line several times, sometimes as much as 45 minutes. They also keep sending me emails saying that I owed them money. I emailed them back and I refuse to go online. I don't want to do another password, I don't want to do another site, but I have to take time on the internet because my internet is not that strong. The reps are always very sweet, except for one. I picked up after 30 minutes and we got disconnected, and then I waited for another 15 to 20 minutes. I’m a full-time caregiver to my husband because of Alzheimer’s, so I can’t spend a lot of time on the computer, and I’m very offended that it takes so darn long to get an answer.
I had a plumber come out because I had leaky faucets. My faucets were all just dripping and you had to over push to close them. He came out and he pulled the little fencer things out of them and replaced them. He had to replace the turnoff valve underneath in the bathroom because it didn’t turn off. He thought it was turned off and when he pulled it, it flooded everything and made a huge mess. It’s the guest bathroom and I don’t go back there very often. Then I finally had some guests, and it passed the 30-day mark, and it’s leaking back there. I wondered why my water bill was so high. I called American Home Shield and they said “Oh, it’s past 30 days, we can’t take care of it. You have to pay another $100 dollars,” so I could have paid a plumber $200 dollars and gotten it fixed differently.
I have an issue as well with an electrician. He came out and he changed the switch and that was great. He changed the under-counter light because the ballast was out and it was easier for him to get a whole new light fixture so we set it up underneath there. But I can’t get the bulb out to see if it’s the bulb and the light is out. It’s been over 30 days and I talked to American Home Shield about that as well. They told me the same thing. Over 30 days, you have to pay another $100 dollars. I could have gotten my electrician to come do it for a whole lot less.
The contractors were very nice and I was very happy until I found out that they didn’t do what they needed to do. They stopped a leak and they fixed another under-counter light to last more than 30 days. I have two homes and I have them both covered by American Home Shield. I was very pleased with the air conditioning guy that came out for the other address and I was very happy with the way they fixed my rain shed.
I also had a claim with my double oven. It is not repairable and they gave me an adequate exchange, but the only color they could give me was stainless steel. I called, and after 35 minutes waiting, I talked to a lady and I had looked online and I knew there was a black one available for the same amount of money. It was within the budget but it was just not the exact same style as what they were going to replace it with and I told them that I wanted the black one. They said, “Well, it wasn’t in the production right now”, and they would let me know when it was under production. I have black appliances and I wanted to stay with what I have. Now I’ve been without an oven there since before Christmas.
With my refrigerator, Nestor Appliance came to fix it and did a great job with the flap because the seal around it was torn and leaking. They ordered a new seal, and the new seal came in but it didn’t fix that refrigerator. The tech's solution was to put the old seal on and that was good. But it still leaked so they came out again under the same $100 dollars and they are fixing it for me. I am dissatisfied with American Home Shield because of the long waits on the phone, and because of the inadequacy of getting something to last over 30 days.

We live in a very small rural area and once, I had to wait three weeks to have our washer and dryer fixed because American Home Shield only contracts with certain people. In this case, it was Sears, who only comes to our neighborhood once a week. To get on their schedule, it is usually a three to four weeks’ process which is a huge problem if it was something major like a water heater. It was a huge hassle with the washer, but not as desperate as if we have no hot water in the house. American Home Shield is a good warranty to get things fixed if something breaks down, but my biggest issue with them is they don’t allow me to go out and get my own contractor.
The last claim we had with American Home Shield was for a pipe that burst because it was packed with grease. The website is cut and dried, and I just clicked on what the problem was. The contractor was a wonderful guy and he was very friendly. He replaced the pipe and he had it done in a couple of hours, and he turned that around in a week which was very unusual. He comes to our neighborhood twice a week, so I was able to snag him early. Everything has been working fine since the repair.

I had an attic fan that went out and submitted the claim to AHS online, and it was a pretty quick response. Their site was very user-friendly. The other section where I could explain a little bit more when submitting a claim only had electrical and I really couldn't give more information on what the problem was. Other than that, filing was pretty easy.
The contractor that came out was very prompt and on time. Unfortunately, he had an issue with the stock with the size of the fan that I needed and wasn't able to complete the repair the first time. It's still not completed right now. He had to go back and find a fan that could fit the opening that I currently have because the current fan didn't have any information. It was all wiped out. But other than that, he was very easy to work with and very responsive to questions. AHS gave a time frame on it and just had to contact the contractor and get it all straightened out. Everything's been going pretty good and I'll recommend them. There were a lot of the home shields that I've dealt with and AHS has been the best so far.

My furnace keeps popping up an error code 91 and turning off and won't kick back on. The problem started around August and one unit is the chronic culprit. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield by phone. I tried to do it through their website but I needed to give them more information because it's the same unit but the website didn't give me the opportunity to put in that comment. Then, I am paying for something that I shouldn’t have to pay for because they were just out here a few weeks ago. I shouldn’t have to repay again for a visit within so many days and I've got caught in that one time when I tried to do it by email. I’m not going to do it again that way because I never will see a refund. If you call American Home Shield, you always have to wait but that’s okay. They’ve been wonderful in getting people out here.
Everything on that furnace had been replaced except the thing outside. Every panel, blower, and other parts but it still keeps doing it. It's not solving the problem. We changed companies this fall per my request because the first company wasn’t so hot. The problem is the unit needs to be replaced and I understand the process to replace it but in the long run, this is costing them more money. I called AHS today because the same furnace went out again and they had somebody scheduled within 15 minutes to come out but he can't come out until Thursday, but AHS was right on top of it once I called them. The contractor they currently have is a very good company and I'm very happy with them. They come exactly on time, come when they say they are, and I get a text. It's a very efficient process.
I've been very pleased with AHS as they are excellent. I bought a policy for my condo and a policy for my home and renewed the policy with the condo when it came due and I definitely will renew the one in my home. The people of AHS go out of their way to be courteous and they are very professional with all the calls and circumstances that I've given to them. They came right to the rescue.

We had an issue with our dryer around Thanksgiving. When it was being used, it developed a rubbing or a scraping sound so, I called American Home Shield and put a request in. A company out of Kinston came and did an initial survey of the dryer. They found that the there were some bad bearings in it and several other things that were wrong. They reported that back to American Shield and they called me within a couple of weeks after that. They said that they ordered parts and it should be in a couple of days after the call. They would reschedule another visit to make the repair and they did exactly as they said it. The technician was timely, very efficient and very professional. It was pretty cool that he put the dryer back in operation so we could use it while they were ordering the parts. It still made a little bit of a sound, but not the horrible sound it made before. They finally got the dryer back in operation and it's been working perfectly fine.
On the other hand, with about three or four claims we've had through the years, it was difficult to get in touch with them on the phone. It takes forever, but if I go online and I submit a claim, I get an email back almost immediately saying that claim has been submitted and a company will call back within 24 hours. That always happens without any question so, the online claim submission is a lot easier. I call them if I have a question or concern about something and it's not all that pleasant because of the wait time. We're moving to the Western part of the state and we're going to buy a house there. And when I do, I fully intend on insuring that with American Home Shield. They're a great company and I have recommended them to a friend.

I had to get my furnace checked. I submitted my claim with AHS online and I got a message. They assigned me to a company and the company contacted me within 24 hours. My parents met with the contractor and they found out that the problem was not my furnace. The reason why it didn’t get very hot was I simply had a draft coming in through under the door. Last year, they sent out Three Brothers company to fix my AC. They said that it needed more coolant so, I paid $700 for more coolant, but it quickly went out because there was a hole in the AC. If the hole isn’t patched, the coolant will simply flow out. I called American Home Shield again and explained to them that whoever they sent out the first time didn’t properly do the job. They didn’t really seem to care in any way so, I had to get the same problem fixed twice.
In addition, I had a problem with my plumbing with the bathroom sink and they sent someone over, but then, there was another issue with another sink within a month so, it's a different issue. There was a miscommunication so, it became a repeat order instead of a whole new work order. I called AHS but I couldn't get in touch with anyone. I tried a couple of times because I simply wanted to go over some billing stuff and I was on hold for over an hour. They told me that the wait time was one to two hours to speak to somebody so, I simply gave up. Their customer service is very poor. Although I renewed them out of habit, I wouldn’t enthusiastically recommend them.

They sent out a technician the day after and he fixed the dryer. My mother interacted with him and she had no complaints. I was very pleased with the service. AHS is reliable and they provide very good service. I’m a new customer with them. I signed up with another company before and the experience wasn’t pleasant so I changed to AHS and so far, I have no complaints. I have also recommended them to a family member and she signed up.

During my claim for my washer and dryer, I had a good experience with American Home Shield. But when I had to put an island hood over our stove, everything that could go wrong with it did. AHS assigned people to come out to my house. I paid the first guy who came $75 but he told me that he didn't service island hoods. AHS then sent out another company but they also didn't service island hoods. They sent another guy but he didn't come out. They assigned me another guy and when he came out, he told me that he was going to order the hood. I waited months and months and I found out that he never ordered the hood. This issue went on for years. Then, I finally found somebody in the company who knew what they were doing and they finally went to the general managers. AHS finally told me to get it fixed and we finally did three months ago and it's working wonderfully.
I wanted to buy the hood from Sears, but AHS doesn't allow them to work on our hoods. Also, all the people that American Home Shield sent us told us that they'd put the hood in but not out. The guy I found agreed to take the unit out and then I sweet-talked him into putting it in. However, I'm still not finished with this issue. When I submitted them the invoice, which was $1300, AHS only sent me $1050 despite them giving me permission to submit the invoice up to $1300. I now have to go back and submit another invoice for the rest of the money that they approved and getting on their lines normally takes 45 minutes.

He was done in just half an hour. After the repair, the furnace has been doing pretty good. I would definitely recommend the service to others.

But I eventually spoke to someone and that interaction was awesome. I had to deal with two of their contractors though because I requested the first person to not come back as he was rude. The second contractor was awesome. AHS needs to fix the customer service option because when you have to call in for a recall number, the option is not available.

I was doing some investigative work to see what kind of home warranty I could get being a homeowner and I knew some of my appliances had the warranty that went along with the products when I bought them, but they were getting ready to expire. A friend of mine told me about AHS, then I made the call and talked to their representative. But I was already sold because of what my friend was telling me about his experiences.
I recently had my refrigerator repaired and my pipe done. It was easy to go online when filing the claim since you have to wait a bit getting to talk to a person if you call. I’ve only been with American Home Shield since August and the reps and contractors that I dealt with were efficient and very courteous. Their reps were able to help with whatever concern I had and the contractors made sure the work area was tidy when they were done. I had to have my refrigerator serviced more than once, but it’s an old refrigerator. So now, we’re on to another circuit board, which had to be replaced. They told me that if this didn't work, then I’d get my item replaced. I told my friends that they should check out AHS.

We were out of the house for about four and a half months because we had been flooded. The air compressor had been on the whole time even though the house was vacant. Then the time that we got to move in, the house was really cold and the compressor didn't work. We filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, it was over the weekend and they came out and fixed it pretty quickly. The technicians seemed to be great. I was with them at the first appointment when they said what they were going to do and my husband was here on the second when they came back and got what we needed. Both of us had a good experience with them. All we had to do was pay the fee and then the Freon fee. So we were really happy and that's supposed to give us another 10 years life on the compressor.
Before that, we had our microwave oven combination that stopped working and they gave us a deal. We got a nice unit to replace it and we just paid a little extra to get stainless steel. That also was a great experience. They're there every time we needed them. We're a long-term customer of American Home Shield and have recommended them over and over.

I had two claims at one time, one for the house in Phoenix and one for the one here in Tucson, and one was so much quicker than the other. For the one in Phoenix, the claim was for my water heater. I called the company and they called me back. A technician was there the next day and then it took three days to get approved. The technician then put what I needed in that house.
Meanwhile, for the house here in Tucson, I had the claim in for three weeks and it was for my dishwasher that was not working. The first company was ready to go out but when they Googled the place, they didn't go to the mountain. So they had to call American Home Shield and told them that they didn't go that far. AHS gave me another company but the guy had so much work that it took three and half weeks. Finally, I called American Home Shield and told them to get me another vendor. I told them too that compared to my other claim, this one was just lingering. Finally, a guy showed up and everything worked out fine.
When technicians come, I tell them who I am, ask them what needs to be done and what we are going to do from there. They pretty much tell me. My properties are a rental so I'm usually there because I want to know what's going on and because those are my items. Most of the technicians do really good. I had one claim in July for a refrigerator and the guy who came was a little cookie because he told me exactly what it needed. It finally was set and done, but I was very upset with American Home Shield because it was a refrigerator and the people lost some food that was in there. It was like there was no way to get anything approved any faster so I wasn't too happy with that one.
I write down everything that's said to me. When the little contractor went to fix it, I told him that I thought it needed a new compressor because it was what was written. I said, "You can call American Home Shield because I'm going to call them right now because I don't want to be charged for that." I got a hold of American Home Shield and had them on speakers and the technician told them that he didn't need the compressor after all. Overall, it's been a hit and miss but for the most part, I'm satisfied. A lot of times you think you are safe and things are covered. But when it comes down to it, you have to still pay $400 out of pocket.
Also, I've never had a problem with one of my freezers and I've had several. Years ago it didn't matter how many refrigerators or freezers you had. But I found out while I was at a friend's house that her refrigerator wasn't working in the garage. I asked if she called American Home Shield but she said AHS only covers for one which I thought was very odd. Other than those, I tell others to go ahead and go with American Home Shield.

My furnace is very old and it is located in my bedroom so that’s where I only have heat. The lack of repair affected us where one room was 64 degrees and the next room was 90. I submitted the service call to American Home Shield, and I've had seven calls to the repairman since November on my furnace claim. The repairman said that something on it was broken and they've been here so many times. On the seventh call, they found that it was not fixable so they're going to replace it. It was the same contractor every time. The repairman was the one who submitted for the replacement and then I called and said ok to American Home Shield. They’re coming on Tuesday. I love American Home Shield and I've already recommended four people to them.

I have had American Home Shield for about 16 years. One time I sat on hold for about an hour and 45 minutes. I'm used to being able to call in and get somebody within 20 minutes. Moreover, they don't seem to want to replace anything anymore. They want to fix things multiple times when it would have been cheaper if they just replaced it the first time versus sending four or five different service people out to replace the part four or five times. We've had somebody out a dozen times since April and the AC still has issues. Adding up every time they have a service fee, every time they have to call a contractor out, order a part and come back out, it would have been cheaper to get it done the first time.
When we first got AHS we called them for our AC. The contractor looked at it, called AHS, and replaced the whole unit. Now, they want customers to get so frustrated that they just go ahead and do it themselves. I had a friend who had American Home Shield. She called on the phone, but nobody came out. She couldn't go without it so they went ahead and just had it fixed themselves. I had made a comment on Facebook and said they need to do something about their service because they're just going to lose customers. I keep AHS to make it easy for our family because I have a husband who has kidney failure and he is not able to do this stuff. It's like being a single parent, a female and not able to do her own work.
Sometimes I've had really good contractors that come out and they go above and beyond to try to make me happy They get the part in as soon as possible. Then there are some companies, like with our water heater, where we went about three weeks without hot water. I spend $800 a year plus $75 service fee. I can't afford to go out and buy a new hot water heater since I'm already spending that kind of money. So I was boiling water in a pot every night and pouring it in my kids' bathtub so they can take a warm bath. I could have called a plumber and had it fixed in two days. But after we've spent that kind of money, I feel AHS just needs to have more compassion.
Hello, Katrina. I understand the frustrations of your A/C not working on a consistent level. Back in the 90’s, my mortgage was through Countrywide and they added American Home Shield to my monthly payment. Our washer was 13 years old when the problem started 3 years ago and AHS keeps replacing major parts in it instead of replacing the washer. It's really annoying because I asked them several times. A couple of years ago, they replaced something that was only worth $250 new and they put more into that. This last time was a real problem because they kept sending somebody who couldn’t fix it and I was without a washer for almost three months and they still wouldn’t replace it.
The wait times, when I call, are bad. I'm on hold for an hour or at least 30 minutes. The contractors they send, for the most part, are all right. The one they sent from the appliance company for the washer just couldn’t fix it. He was a nice enough guy and there wasn’t a problem with him. They finally sent Sears and I had to wait another three weeks but they fixed it. But I'm tired of paying the $75 deductible every six months on a 15-year-old washer. I used to have a lot of confidence in American Home Shield but after this last time, not so much.

We bought a 17-year old house so we thought there's a lot of stuff that could go wrong. And sure enough, there have been a few things, like when the heating went out. I was really pleased that American Home Shield came out. They sent someone to fix the panel right up. The heating started working again and life was good. Recently, we had a clog in our sink in one of the bathrooms upstairs. We tried Drano and a few other home fixes and nothing was working. So that's when I filed the claim online. And so American Home Shield sent out Nate's, and the people from the plumbing company had little sticks and mud and everything. They said that what likely happened was that we've got tree roots invading our plumbing system. Unfortunately, it wasn't covered by the plan.
Since I've read the plan information, I was fine with that. So I just thanked them and said that I'll give it to my husband and see what he wants to do. Overall, I did a lot of research before choosing American Home Shield and I found that this is a company that was highly recommended through all of my review and research. And they have done nothing but prove that all of that is correct. I was really pleased and I definitely recommend them.

Once I reach them, the dealing was very good. However, the original company that they had scheduled couldn't come out till the following Tuesday which was not acceptable. They told me that they would recommend another company when we call them back and this company came out the next day. The tech fixed it in 15 minutes. The air conditioner has been working very well since then.
When they called the second company, we automatically figured that they were going to call the first one and cancel the appointment. But after we had our air conditioning company completed the repair, the first company called on Monday morning and said that they were scheduled tomorrow so somebody did not call and notified them. I told them that we already got this thing as completed and they handle with AHS any issues they have as far as the service contract calls or cancellation. Other people say AHS wasn't any good. When my refrigerator broke, I made a claim to American Home Shield and the repairman they sent out said nothing’s wrong. I told him that I paid $100 to AHS to make sure that my refrigerator is fixed properly and he just plugged it in and out. That’s not fixing it and I can do it myself. He told me to call them back if I experience other problems. A week later, the refrigerator broke down again and the guy came out. I hadn't thrown away all my food. They said that he fixed it. He said he's got the part needed and put it in. The part went bad in two weeks. I bought another $400 worth of food and had to throw that away as well.
They came out the third time and they were saying that it’s going to work. I asked them what they know about what happened the second time which gives them so much assurance and certainty that it's going to work this time. I also asked them if they put in the right part the second time or if they gave me a refurbished part. I’m losing hours from work sitting here since the windows are eight hours, or at a minimum, five. I can't go to work, and then, be here at the same time. They said that's what their hours are. I asked them if I was going to get compensated for the food that I lost because of their incompetent technicians. It wasn’t my fault and they said it was going to work. I bought food both times and lost the food. When we tried to call them back, they don't answer.
You have to call American Home Shield in order to call them to set up an appointment and you're on hold no less than an hour. So, I called them in the morning as I'm getting dressed and by the time I get to work, I can speak to a representative. But they didn't say anything about re-compensating me for the food that I lost. The repair people are rude and they don't feel as though they need to answer any of your questions because they feel like they're being paid by the insurance. So, I can't deal with it and after this repair, I'm going to be away with the warranty.
If people can find their own repairman and then see if American Home Shield can reimburse them because it would eliminate having them come out three or four times. They don't respect our time. After we get off the holidays, a lot of people are exhausted and they’re PTO on vacation time and when they give us huge windows, we have to take off work. People don't have to be bothered with having to address the same issue three times. That's ridiculous because it's a serious matter. I can't eat, I can't have water and I can't have food in my house because the refrigerator is important. AHS don't take their time to find quality repair people. They take whoever is desperate for work and usually, the people that are desperate for work are no good. But then, when I got my own person to try to repair, AHS was willing to give me back everything I spent.

A guy came out and tried to repair it. He got it going, but right before Christmas, it went back out. It was still not fixed by New Year and I couldn't do anything for Christmas. Normally, I bake cakes and different kind of pies, however, anything I cooked had to be on the top of my oven. It was almost to the point where I wanted to just go and say, “Forget it.”
One time, I decided to stay up because I needed that repair. It was 12:00 where I was. I called the 800 number, but it still took a long time. Moreover, that agent was very rude. I’ve had some that have been very nice and patient with me, while others just ask if I want to cancel. The agent I had that night asked me if I wanted to cancel my policy. Our fan broke and wasn't blowing hot air. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield online and was worried doing it because it was the weekend before Christmas, and I didn't know how fast they would get to it. We have young children in the house. But AHS submitted my referral straight away and emailed me the contact information of the contractor and I was able to get a hold of them right away, which I really appreciated. The contractor went out of their way to send someone here on the eve before Christmas to see if they could fix it, and I really appreciated the extra step they took for us. The repair guy was very professional and friendly. He was around for an hour, took his time, tested everything, and did a whole inspection on the fan just to make sure nothing else was going on.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to fix it that day because the warehouse for the parts was closed, and we still ended up having to go without heat. Then on Tuesday after Christmas, they called right away, around 8:00 in the morning to let me know that they were working on getting the part for me. They came out that day around 12:00 and fixed the fan. The fan is making a little noise now when it is pulling the air in, so I might need to call them to do a follow-up but other than that, it's working great.

After a sewage backup in my master bathtub, the plumber they sent could not clear the clog but assured me that he was immediately submitting an authorization request to AHS to enable him to proceed with the work. 2 days later and multiple calls to the plumber and AHS have resulted in nothing. Multiple requests to AHS to hear from a manager has yielded no results. This company is a complete rip-off and I am extremely frustrated that I’ve paid them to get zero service. I was with Old Republic before and we wanted to increase our coverage but they said they could only do it during the purchase of a home. So we looked at different companies and American Home Shield pitched a good line. But in hindsight, they're not a better company. I've only had experiences with two vendors but for the same amount of money that I spent with Old Republic, the quality of service is very diminished with AHS. I even went to contact them through their complaint line and they basically replied with contractual jargon.
I made two claims through American Home Shield, for the gas furnace and the plumbing. I was able to submit the claim over the phone and the interaction with the representative was great. But the first time the contractors showed up for the heating element, it was six hours after their four-hour window. That wasted my whole day. There was a lack of punctuality from the companies AHS had decided to contract with and yet, they did nothing to really make it right.
Unfortunately, I spent two hours just trying to phone contact someone on AHS' end then they told me to take it up with the company even though they were the ones that linked me up with the company. I was really disappointed. The technician eventually called me and said that he was on his way. The people above him overbooked him but if at some point, he knew that he was not going to be able to make this window, why did he not give the customer a courtesy call? They were not dedicated to keeping the customer up to speed.
They always tell you that they're going to call you within 30 minutes before they show up. The second time the same company showed up to repair the furnace, we were coming to the end of the four-hour window so I called the company. They told me they would do it, that they were still within their window and to call them back. So once again, the people were late and I didn't get a courtesy call until after the four-hour window.
Anyway, the technician showed up and did what he was supposed to do in a timely manner and there have been no issues with the unit since then. But from start to finish, it took over 30 days for them to actually fix my unit. The first time the people came out, they said they needed a part but that they would get the part in and try to get me done before the holidays. The part came in but they didn't have any technicians that were available until weeks later.
With the plumbing service call that I put in, the people came within a couple of days. They contacted me to schedule a date and that was fine. But I asked if I could pay additional money for an upgrade and they did offer me an upgrade but I would have paid more for the actual device than it cost because I was looking at the manufacturer's website. Where was even the credit from American Home Shield? So I didn't think it was a big deal. The vendor was trying to modify what it is that my contract says that they will do so that wasn't really a knock on American Home Shield but I was disappointed.
American Home Shield also needs a better phone infrastructure. I've called them a total of eight times, and each time, it took over two hours just to get to a live person. Maybe that's normal but I've only dealt with one other home warranty company and that wasn't the case. As soon as our contract is over, we're definitely going to be in the market for a new home warranty company.
James, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

I had called AHS about the light in the ceiling fan not working. I had also sent an email. I had called three times, spoke to three different people, and they kept saying that they’re going to pass it over to some other department. However, I’ve never received a callback. Then I called again in December and again in January. However, my ceiling fan is still not taken care of. Then they charged me for service when nothing was even done. I had to go through a long process for them to try and give me my credit back. They said that it was taken care of, but I haven’t received my statement yet to see if it was credited back to my card. They never even discussed why they haven’t sent someone out to fix the lamp on my ceiling fan yet.
When I spoke to one young lady she said that she didn’t know why Wiltshire didn’t call or show up. She said that she was going to look into it and call me the following day, but she never called. I called back and got ahold of a gentleman. He said that he was going to send it to another department which is higher up. I don’t remember what the department was called, but they were supposed to look into the situation. I never received any information back from them yet.
I called again and spoke to another gentleman who said that he was going to send it to some other department. We were trying to get the lamp taken care of before our renewal, but they kept saying that they'll pass it up to this department or that department. Our contract came up for renewal and it is upsetting that here I am paying for service and service hasn’t been taken care of. I told them that because of that delay, I didn't want to renew my contract, but it automatically renewed. We also had another issue, and they took care of that one.

I filed two claims with American Home Shield. One was a great experience and the other was a bad one. The first claim was a bad experience. I was on the phone for 50 minutes and got hung up on. I had to call back and I was there for another 50 minutes. I finally got a hold of somebody and they set an appointment. I wasn’t getting good airflow in one room of the house and all the HVAC is supposed to be covered under the warranty.
They sent out an HVAC guy and he said that there was some ductwork that was knocked off and needed to be repaired but AHS wouldn’t cover it because they can’t tell if it was covered prior to me buying the house. So, I had to get an A/C guy to come out here and fix something that was already covered under the contract. It only took them two seconds and some duct tape to put the thing back together. I talked to AHS rep on the phone and it didn't go that well. They were very standoffish and weren’t helpful. It felt like they were doing everything they could to not honor the contract.
For the second claim, I did everything online and it went great. During the purchase of our house, we upgraded our contract to cover the pool as well as the pool equipment. Our pool pump had some issues and went out by the time the pool guy got here. It was leaking and he fixed it. He was really friendly and did a good job. Because of my first experience, I was super apprehensive about even calling them out for the pool since I have a pool guy, however, since it was covered I thought to give it one more shot. However, the distaste of the first initial experience still was not made up for the fact that I got a good experience on the second time. I still feel like I got cheated on that one. I had to pay $150 altogether for the guy to come out, the labor and everything. I definitely would not recommend American Home Shield and I won’t sign up again once the contract is over.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Normally it takes two days from the time you call American Home Shield until they can get someone out to provide the service that you need. But the winter temperatures in Southern Illinois are going to be down around zero tonight and for the next three nights. I worry that if we have a problem with our furnace, I can’t wait two days to get a repairman. I haven’t run into that problem yet but if they can’t get somebody out within two days, then I’ll have to work something else out. My air conditioning and heating unit is also covered. It’s hotter in the summertime and when something happens to the unit, you need service almost immediately. If worse comes to worst and I can find somebody who will come and fix it, and I’ll just have to pay the price. I hope that I don't run into that though.
Right before Christmas, my wife didn’t think the oven was working properly and we called American Home Shield. The lady I talked to was going to schedule an appointment with a local repair service. But I told her I knew that place and they don't work on the Samsung products that we have. So she checked it out and came back to confirm what I said. She then set me up with Sears instead and they were out the next day. The representative found out that there was nothing wrong with the oven and everything was working fine.
I had one other claim and it was for our Samsung washer. Sears came out and basically said they could fix it but it would be two weeks before they could get out. American Home Shield called and gave us the option to either take what it would cost on the repair towards a new machine or they would go ahead and get it repaired. We decided that we didn’t want any more Samsung products. We asked the guy from Sears what company they have the least service calls on for washing machines. He said LG so we bought one and we’ve been extremely happy with it.
The only problem I have is the way that Sears works. They set up an appointment with you some time between 8:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the afternoon but they usually show up either late in the afternoon or in the evening. So somebody has to be around all day to be ready when they get there. That’s not on American Home Shield but Sears seems to be one that they use a lot on repairs. They would call, let me know they're coming and then show up. But otherwise, I would have to sit there all day and wait.

I submitted my claim online and then I called. American Home Shield's website was okay but the phone was ridiculous. I was on the phone waiting for over an hour. I have little kids and I have my mother who's older. I called overnight when I found what was freezing and they told me somebody would come by tomorrow morning but nobody came. I called around noon to tell them again and they said, "Well we're still looking for somebody." It was more than 24 hours but once they found the guy, the person came and found the problem. He was very professional and he did very well. We have to wait for the parts he said he ordered so we did. It was a day or two when he received the part.
The contractor was very good. He communicated well with me and my husband. When he said he was coming, he came and once I told him I have little kids, he had us prioritized. He said he had another job but he said, "Actually let me just come. I'll come as soon as I can." I've seen few people in the past that really say their customer service wasn't that good but this person was really good.
However, I had another claim during summertime for my air conditioner and that experience was horrible. I found somebody not from AHS because I have little kids and it was summertime. He said the problem was A, B, C. I waited for AHS's contractor to come. The contractor told me, that was not the problem. They were avoiding to fix the major problem. "You're putting a bandage on this. The freon was leaking and it's gonna keep leaking. Once you fix the leaks it wouldn't solve the problem. The problem is for you is to replace the entire air condition."
I paid 5,000 out of my pocket and AHS sent me a check, but I've never cashed it. It was over a hundred and twenty-something. I was very disappointed. I said, "You promised me if something goes wrong, you guys fix or replace." After dealing with them for over a week and my kids are suffering and my mom is suffering, she's older, I didn't have a choice. I couldn't afford to stay in the hotel. I went ahead and replaced all things by myself. I complained but I didn't feel my complaint was going anywhere.

My daughter called American Home Shield to come out because the pipes on the washing machine was stuck up. The contractor came out on the time they scheduled and fixed it. But the last time that my daughter put in a claim for heating with American Home Shield, the contractor couldn’t come right then. American Home Shield always gives appointments and before the time for the appointment to come up, my brother came down and solved it for us. So she called American Home Shield and canceled the claim.
Last year, we had a claim for the air conditioner and the contractor took a long time to come out and fix it. They ordered parts, sent a technician out and he said that he couldn’t put those kinds of parts on that air conditioner so that took another long two or three weeks. It was almost a month before we could get heat. We went and bought space heater because I had a baby that’s in the house and we had to have some heat for him. And we also needed heat for ourselves because that was in the winter time. Other than that, we don’t have any other problems so far. When American Home Shield send contractors out here, they’re always friendly and helpful. American Home Shield is a nice company and I’ll recommend them.

I have an active claim with American Home Shield for a refrigerator replacement. While they have determined that the refrigerator is non-repairable and that it is no longer produced, I've gone on and purchased a new one. Now, I'm just waiting for the reimbursement check from them. Submitting a claim is painless, and American Home Shield is doing everything on the front end pretty good, from the standpoint of calling in, scheduling the service, and dispatching the vendor. But trying to get a follow-up is a really tedious process. You are on the phone for an enormously long period of time waiting for someone to pick up, which they really need to take a look at because they have a customer and they're trying to get a resolution to an issue which just closed out. It's like going to the grocery store and you filled up your bucket then you get to the checkout counter and it's backed up and you only got two cashiers.
I tried to reduce the length of time by putting on the speakerphone and multi-task until somebody gets on the phone. I understand the process and I want to get it handled, so I may tend to stay on the phone. But other customers will hang up. My preference would be for the company to reach out when they know that additional information needs to be acquired. They do a better job of reaching out by email or something that gives the customer attention. And they're trying to push their customers to use the website. So, even though its advertisement said for faster service, go to their website, I can't read the result on the website because I'm waiting out for the information for them to give in order for me to go to the next step. Still, if the whole purpose of buying a warranty is for them to be on the cover when something goes wrong, from that standpoint, I was happy.

About three days before New Year’s, I had an issue with the garbage disposal and called American Home Shield. The first contractor said it wasn’t an emergency so they'd come on the 2nd or 3rd of January. I called AHS back and they gave me another company. I called that company and the guy I spoke with was really nice. He said they'd be here tomorrow morning, and sure enough, they came. The water went right through the garbage disposal onto the inside cabinet onto the floor. The guy explained that there were some spills because of hot waters over time. He popped the old one off, popped the new one on and he was out of here. The same thing happened about 10 years ago, and we were with AHS that time as well. Once, we didn’t get the air conditioner fixed for three days, and it was 100 degrees all three days. But stuff like that happens. Everything I've paid them on a monthly basis covers for all the things that they've fixed already.

I have submitted two claims to American Home Shield since I have lived here. The week we moved in, we had a cold snap and we were not able to produce heat as both furnaces had issues. They had just been inspected during the process of buying the house. On one of them, a master control board was out. While on the other, the automatic gas valve was out and needed a new thermostat inside the house. Submitting a claim online using my phone was easy. After submitting, I paid for it up front. Within a matter of minutes, the company called me and they were on their way. The contractor that came out from Oakes Air Conditioning was very knowledgeable and friendly. I also got the impression that he was willing to stay until the problem was fixed. They were able to get everything fixed right on site.
Around new year we thought we had a water leak. It was over the weekend and it took three days for that contractor to respond and I had to initiate the call to them the next day. They said that they would try to work with me in the next 24 to 48 hours. I ended up canceling that and didn't fulfill that claim. I saw that I got the credit for that one and we ended up not having a water leak. It was another issue and was an easy fix. If I do have a plumbing issue in the future, I would request that we not use that contractor. I come from the contracting industry, so I know how it works.

But when no one showed up on the day they were supposed to, I called American Home Shield. They said in the system, it was showing a week later which wasn't what I was told at first. That was a little rough since that would be another extra week, but the service overall was fine. The contractor was awesome, had very good customer service and the dishwasher has been working just fine. AHS saved me a lot of money on repairs in the long run.

The guy was was on time and he explained what happened. We thought that the thermostat was acting up but he wasn't sure if that was it and that was it. He was quick and within 30 minutes, it was ready and done. He replaced the thermostat and since then, everything is working very well as it should. It was a very good experience.

I tried to file a claim online for a problem with electrical wiring and a switch and I have had this problem every year since I’ve been with American Home Shield. If I’m filing a claim online right after the beginning of the contract renewal, it won’t let me in. The first time that it happened I called AHS and they said that it’s a computer problem and that I just have to call the number until it’s resolved but it has never been resolved. So, I always have to resort to calling them by phone. Their reps were very responsive. I know that they handled the claim right away because that day or the next morning, I would get a call from the contractor. Most of the contractors sent out were very good.
The one this time, the contractor was trying to fix the switch to a ceiling fan that controls lights and the fan. Frankly, his remedy was not acceptable and that’s when he said they would have to order a new part. So far, it has been a week and they called yesterday and scheduled an appointment for next week. I had another problem with a ceiling fan which had to be replaced. I have all designer fans in my house and the only thing they would pay for was a contract fan. By the time I replaced the fan with what I wanted, I was out of pocket $800. They didn’t cover that although I hoped they would. Overall, I’m not terribly dissatisfied but I’m not terribly happy either with American Home Shield.

The contractor who came out was very nice and they were perfect, and the heater works perfectly now. Most of the experiences we've had here recently have been very good. The realtor that sold us our home in Houston recommended American Home Shield and we continued with them when we moved. We've been with them since 1994. They are very responsive and fair. A month ago, I submitted my claim over the phone for our heating unit that quit working. Cote's Heating came out. They thought they had it repaired, but it went out again. They came back and fixed it again but it went out a third time. They finally found that it was a defective wire and repaired it, and it has worked fine since then. The people from Cote's were excellent. However, I usually waited up to an hour if I wanted to speak to a representative on the phone. Also, things have gotten more expensive. When we started with AHS, our service calls were $25, not $75. Nevertheless, my experience has been good.

I used to call in my claims and the reps that I’ve spoken with previously have been very helpful, but the wait time can be really, really long. Almost all of the contractors, except for one that I had last summer, have been great. I filed a claim recently online when a lot of the power sockets in the basement had gone out. An electrician came and was able to figure out which outlet took out all the other circuits. When something is covered, it's done well. However, there are a lot of things that used to be covered that are not covered anymore. So I feel like the product is not as good as it used to be overall because the selection has been reduced.

There was smoke coming out of the washer when I was doing a load of laundry. I tried to get a human being to talk to me so that we could confirm what was going on and what the outtakes were. We took 58 minutes for that one time. American Home Shield had their service company come over. The contractor said the inside of the washer was going but the drum wasn’t which caused the heat and caused the smoke. He also told me that I won’t be able to repair it as it gets too pricey than to get a new washer because they had to get the chassis and repair it. It happened during Christmas time and I’m still waiting for my washer to arrive. They were supposed to have it delivered.
When they first started, it can be delivered 10 to 14 days and nothing happened so I called. And then, they had to get some more confirmation. They gathered the fact to where it will be sent. I called and they finally had January 26 although everything was down even after January 27. The gentleman who came out was great. He looked at it and told me what was going to happen. We've checked that they talked to AHS and they'll be back and contacted them. Overall, AHS took a lot of time and there was lack of communication.

Last November, the furnace wasn’t working and a few more months back, there were problems with the air conditioning, too. I called up American Home Shield and it was tough when I was told that they have a 24-hour service but they couldn’t get a hold of anybody on the weekend. Especially in August when we had to sit in the house but still had to get stuff done because we were moving. It was 117 degrees in the house and we had to wait.
They came on Monday but we had to wait until Tuesday to get it fixed because instead of screws holding the cover down, the guy who lived in the house before put in rivets and the tech that came out said that he couldn’t work with the motor. He told us that we needed to have somebody else to do it and the second guy that came out was nice to look at things and understood that the breaker was bad. He said that the other guy was giving me the runaround. He also said that he was going to give me a new breaker and would write it up. I appreciated that. Then he put screws back in the unit and got everything to work. We had to pay more for them to come out and the last thing I was told was if the furnace or air conditioner goes, we would have to buy our own.
We also had a plumbing problem. The guy who came out was nice and he said the issue could be on the outside wall. But he was wrong. We made a 12-inch square by one inch knocking out the stucco and it turned out that he was able to find the trap in the house. He just had to go over one more door. I found some wood flooring that I had and he made that up for us for the time being. We understand mistakes, but being a professional plumber, he should be able to check stuff down and find out where the trap was.

I originally had a plan for a year that was basically given to me with the purchase of my home and I had a lot of really bad experiences then. I stopped my contract for a while and I gave it about a year. I came back and since then, I’ve only had good experiences. Recently, I was having issues with my furnace not heating up. I contacted American Home Shield over the phone and the reps were great.
But I figured out what the problem was before the technician got there and semi-fixed it myself. I had some drywall worked on and all that dust got stuck up in the vent. It clogged up the furnace filter so even if that was new it would end up getting clogged because it was running a lot that time of the week. I pulled it out a couple of hours before the contractor showed up and the furnace kicked back up. I didn’t realize why until he got there though, and he actually came down, took a look at it, explained what happened and went into the next step. We called American Home Shield last year to repair the furnace. They had sent a technician and he said there was nothing wrong with the furnace so, we spent a really cold winter. We couldn't go through that again. I pulled up the company on the Better Business Bureau and they had a rating of F. They weren’t even accredited by Better Business Bureau. I was really concerned about that so I called American Home Shield. I canceled the request and thought I'd schedule a new request but they assigned the same company again. I was really concerned and I called, but I couldn’t get a hold of anybody at American Home Shield. I posted a comment on their Facebook page and somebody called me back right away and explained to me that they don’t go by the Better Business Bureau records and that they go by the surveys of their clients and their experiences. I said that I’d give them a try, but I was really uncomfortable with it.
We played phone tag trying to get an appointment scheduled. One evening, we were sitting down to dinner and the doorbell rang. A gentleman at the door said that he is with American Home Shield, and he was driving by my house and he thought to stop and see if I wanted him to go in and repair the furnace. I agreed. He was with his daughter and they were very knowledgeable, took their time and sat down with us. They took readings and there was a part where it was supposed to be in a certain range and ours was down to zero. They did some cleaning and oiling.
They told us exactly what they did and what the part was. It ended up being one little part that they carried on their truck and it was common for that part to go out on furnaces. They said that it was an older furnace, but due to that extra little stuff that keeps it running, it should be good for quite a while. We haven’t had any trouble with it since so, I was really pleased.

For the years that we have been with American Home Shield, we've not had one problem with any claim that we've ever had to file. We do it online and their site is very user-friendly. Generally, less than two hours afterward, I get a confirmation from their service provider notifying me when I can anticipate the service call being completed. And then, when the technician is in route, I actually get an acknowledgment of his movement because I normally meet him at the house.
While we did encounter a problem when they've changed our account number and we failed to receive the notification of that because the system wouldn't acknowledge us -- it was resolved itself on the spot once we got it on the phone. Other than that, they sent out contractors who are reputable, like the last time, the contractor told me he diagnosed the problem with our garbage disposal. That thing was broken and he worked with it without a hitch. Everything's perfect now. Overall, we've been very pleased with the service being provided by American Home Shield. They were going to send somebody else out but when I found they had terrible reviews, I told AHS not to send them out. They sent this other guy out and he was better, but he still was only two stars. He seemed thorough but was nonchalant. He didn't carry the part in his truck too and I had to wait a week for it which I didn't like. But my air conditioning has been good since the repair and I'm able to run my heat now. The contractor said that they couldn’t come at night, they can only come during the day. It was cold, I had no heat, and I had nowhere to go. I just bought the house and that was really frustrating. They need to have some kind of emergency because that’s crazy. The technician came at about 3:00 the next day. He said that the humidifier was hooked up to go out to something and it was the pipe outside that had frozen. So he unhooked the humidifier. He got the heat on, but the humidifier is still unhooked. I couldn’t understand that either. It wasn’t a good experience. I was very dissatisfied and it shouldn’t have been like that.

The contractors they send are very limited skill set. I had my dishwasher broken, The contractor came to visit, after 10 days. First he tried to convince us to pay extra $100 for regular cleaning and later when we refused he said there is some issue with the pump. Next week he comes and told us to break our countertop or cut the flooring to pull the dishwasher out. It took only 5 minutes for my handyman to pull it out without breaking anything. If I would have followed their advice, I would have end up with a broken countertop or floor.
After all this episode, I lost confidence in the contractor and asked for cash payout so that I can get it fixed myself. It's again a week, I have called them 3 times waiting for over 2 hours in total. Still no resolution. We buy insurance to avoid the hassle, but dealing with them itself is big hassle and pain in itself. Not worth paying 40 bucks a month to these guys. Very unprofessional service.

Does it not seem funny that all the bad reviews are answered with the same stock answer... a social media contact will be made. If you handled your business correctly in the first place, you would not have to worry about what is being said negatively on social media. I have been put on hold multiple times - one experience, I was on hold for 2 hours. I have been cut off; and I have asked that I be transferred, after being on the hold queue for an hour, only to end up back at the first of the queue.
I have an in wall stove unit. AHS sent a repairman over, and rendered the stove unworkable. He told me what I needed to order (regarding the size of the unit). When I finally got ahold of someone, the agent said he would be 'the one' taking me through the process. He took my information and an install company came out with the wrong size oven. AHS says this is MY fault, and wants to charge me a $180 restocking fee. Further they will not send me any other options to choose from because I have not had the ability to look at anything online. So now, I'm stuck with no stove, and no options. I have 2 contracts with the company, and am going to cancel. I'm just waiting on word from my advisor on how to handle moving forward. A JOKE.

They refunded the $125.00 co-pay and the washer was fixed. It's difficult to give 5 stars due to the fact it took from December 17 to January 22 to fix the issue. We are going to keep the home warranty and give them another try if and when something else occurs with one of our appliances. I'm hoping we have made the right decision.

My washing machine quit working December 21. I called AHS to have a service repairman to come out waiting an hour and twenty minutes to speak to someone. The repairman came and stated he would order the part from AHS. We did not hear back from anyone until I called AHS again on January 2nd waiting again well over an hour for a human being to answer. The part was on order and was said to be delivered to repairman. On January 6th he came to do repair but the following day it was not working again. Called AHS. Now waiting almost two hours for someone to answer my call. They sent the gentleman out and he ordered yet ANOTHER part. Today after two weeks I had yet to hear anything from AHS or repairman.
I once again called AHS waiting 48 minutes to be connected to a human. The lady that answered said, "Oh I see the problem. Your part is no longer available," and switched me to purchasing to discuss my options. (When was someone going to let me know this was the issue?) Now I'm waiting 36 minutes for someone to answer in purchasing where they informed me the part was received by the repairman yesterday. I asked, "Which is it? You have the part or it's no longer available?" What a mess. I would NEVER recommend AHS to ANYONE! The most horrible experience with a company I've ever experienced. Of course I've tried to contact the cancellation department and no one ever answered. Surprise surprise! DO NOT use this company for a home warranty.

I’ve been using American Home Shield for almost two years now, and they are probably the best thin. They are worth the money. Also, they are good and prompt. I had a leak in my bathroom pipe underneath my sink and a leak in my basement. The AHS representative I spoke to was very pleasant and told me that the claim will be forwarded to Steel Plumbing. I heard back from the plumber within 24 hours. However, the guy from Steel Plumbing didn’t do anything. I called AHS and told them what happened so they told me that someone will come out within two days. The second guy who came was excellent. He was here for four hours or longer fixing my pipe in the basement. He replaced the pipe in the basement and he used some kind of tool to get the blockage out. He stopped that leak and the leak in my bathroom.

I had another company like American Home Shield in 2010 and they suck. They kept raising their price every year and when stuff would go bad, I had to raise hell with them to get my money back or get it fixed. I switched to American Home Shield and when my furnace kept freezing up on the outside, I filed a claim with them. They sent people to test it and they found it had a leak in one of the coils inside. The contractor called it in and ordered a part, then I had to wait but once the part came in, he came right up and got it down. It only took him two hours to do the job and so far, the furnace is working really good.

I had a plumbing leak inside a wall. American Home Shield put the wall out and replaced the faucet for the leak. They ended up having to replace the whole thing. They tried to fix the one that will leak but because of where it was, it didn't work well. The tech was great. He was professional, personable, told me exactly what he was going to do and explained to me why it's needed to be done. He wasn't able to completely fix it the first day he came but he came back and did what he said he was going to do. I'm totally happy with the service and would highly recommend AHS to others.

We had a leaking water heater so I had the plumber come and take a look. He suggested that it needed to be fixed and he submitted the claim to American Home Shield for me. He kept me updated through the process. Also, when he scheduled to come out, he was right on time. He made the process seamless and had very little things for me to do myself. First, he tried to repair the heater but when he came to check, he found that it was beyond repair and decided to replace it. I liked my experience with American Home Shield and I would recommend them to anybody else. They do exactly what they promise with very little dispute or contesting. If I had a chance, I would renew my subscription with them.

When our heating system's motor burned out I did the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and everybody was nice and cordial. The contractor was a nice gentleman. I asked him what happened and he told me the motor blew out. They replaced the motor right on the same day they had the part. I was so glad because that was right after we had the snow and as soon as they were able to move around they came out to me.
I haven’t had any unhappy experiences and that’s why I had purchased American Home Shield for my three other houses. I will tell my friends about purchasing it as well. I always let them know I don’t have any problems with American Home Shield sending someone out as soon possible. They’re very courteous and the work is always done efficiently. It’s a good product. The $75 trip fee is also very reasonable. Imagine what I probably would have to pay for the trip fee, the labor plus that motor. You save a lot of money when you have it.

It was super easy submitting my plumbing claim with American Home Shield. Their website was very user-friendly. The contractors were very fast and professional, and they did a good job. I would recommend AHS. Others should get it when they buy their house.

Our water heater was not connected correctly, was leaky and it needed to be replaced. I filed a claim online which was very fast and simple. I loved the AHS website. Repairmen were out two days later and they were very professional, friendly, and knew exactly what they were doing. They gave me a full out estimate and even talked to me about what the warranty probably would not cover and the other options I might have.
When they came back, there was somebody else to help since it was a heavy water tank. They were very good at explaining how the new tank works, what I should look for as well as the warranty that came with it so I was thrilled. They also asked me if I had any questions. The water heater works like a charm and I can take a hot shower now. American Home is not the first warranty I've had in this house, but they blew away the last company that I used. I would recommend them highly. They are the lowest cost option, have the best reviews and they live up to their reviews.

There was a leak underneath the sink so I requested the service from American Home Shield just like always and they responded appropriately as expected. The plumber came out and determined that it was the faucet that was leaking and that it had to be replaced, and they did which took less than a week. Once the contractor determined what he needed, he ordered it and the response time was all very reasonable.
However, AHS takes inordinately long when you call for service. The last time I called them I was on the phone waiting for an hour and a half for an operator to come. I experience that all the time when I call them. I'm a little reluctant though to make a request on the website. I'm just not that comfortable with that process yet. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield because they are professional, they deliver their promise, and the cost is not excessive. But I would caution others to be patient when dealing with them.
