We have three heater units at our house and one unit is over the garage. We also have a small primary over the garage and a relay on that unit had gone out. The guy from Myers was Johnny on the spot, got the part, came back and fixed it. The other heater is downstairs in our main living area and it was running on top but not producing any hot air. It doesn't get super cold here in Alabama, so we noticed the heater was not working when it was getting cold. We called American Home Shield and the rep initially thought I was calling about the same heater. So when the technician came out, there was confusion because he was with us and it was a different unit, but they worked it out.
The technician sent by AHS said he had to order a part but he has not called us back or returned our phone call. It has been a week and a half since and we called and left him a message last Friday because we were worried as we’re going over the weekend again. The issue seemed to be some kind of valve replacement and it could take longer to take the part in, but it would have been nice for him to communicate and tell us that it could take a week or a month.
Overall we like American Home Shield and my parents have it too. I don’t have to jump through 10 different hoops as these guys are generally easy. We just call and say that something's messed up and the guys come out. We had a different home warranty company before but it was like they didn’t want to believe at anything. It was always a hassle with them just trying to get somebody out and they didn’t want to cover anything so it was a nightmare.

I have a horrible time trying to call American Home Shield. I need to change the credit card where our monthly bill is charged to. I've had to change it several months ago when the card we used got compromised but I've never been able to get anybody live on the phone to change it back. It tells me that I have to wait for an hour. I pay them every single month and I should not have to wait on hold for an hour just to talk to somebody to change my credit card. On the positive side if we need service, I do it online and their response time has been very good. Our dishwasher leaked on the floor and the contractor who came did the job. And overall we're satisfied.

I'm a widow and I find that AHS is a good thing for me to have. When my furnace stopped working, I called AHS and they set up an appointment with one of their vendors. The service guy then came out and he was wonderful. He was very friendly and upfront with me. He told me what the problem with the unit was and that he didn't have the part needed to fix it. He told me that he would get the part and that he would give me a call in the morning. That was what he did exactly. He came back the next day and fixed the unit. I have had people ask me about AHS and I recommended them. Their service is good and I've not had a problem with their repairs. They've always come through for me and although their prices have gone up a little bit over the years, I get that.
Their customer service is usually pretty friendly. The only time I had a problem with was trying to get through in the summer time when it was 100 degrees out and my air conditioner went out. It was also like 90 degrees in my house at 6 o'clock in the morning. That experience was a nightmare. I couldn't get back through to AHS and when they gave me a vendor's name and number, I called the vendor at 6 o'clock in the morning and left a message but they never called me. I called AHS again and was told that they would get back to me within the hour. But they never called me back so I wound out having to call somebody else because I had an 88-year old mother and I had been sick for a year. It was almost $400 out of pocket.
When I called initially to get reimbursed for it, the person that I talked to read her script about how I had to have an authorization from them. I told the rep that I was on the phone with their people for I don't know how long, trying to get the authorization but I couldn't get through so I had to do something on my own. I went to their Facebook page too and told them what a disappointment it was. They made good on it and they reimbursed me for every penny. I've had AHS for a long time. They replaced and fixed my filter, replaced a couple of garbage disposals and their contractors have been out numerous times fixing different stuff. I've never had a problem with them aside from that incident with the air conditioning.

We have AHS pretty much since we've owned the house and they’ve always been very courteous and quick to respond to our emergencies. Recently, we had an issue with our AC unit. It's been very cold here so we were running it more than usual. We went online to submit the claim with American Home Shield and their website was very user-friendly. The tech who came out was very helpful and very friendly, too. We had to wait one day for him to come out but it was because of the bad weather that hit the whole country. So, they were busy. But after he came out, we had issues with the AC again a couple of days later. So, I contacted AHS and the lady that I got was very helpful. Since it was part of the original service call, I didn’t have to resubmit a request. The tech came out again and fixed the AC. It's been great so far and we haven’t had an issue since.

American Home Shield's claims process works pretty good. But I usually have to call the service person myself because they didn't call me back when they said they would. The contractors that they've sent were good. They all came when they were supposed to and they fixed everything. A year and a half ago, my 10-year old washer went out and they determined that it needed to be replaced. I did what they said and I picked it out, but it took about four weeks before I got it. That was not good. Both American Home Shield and the service people blamed each other so I don't know who was at fault. Other than that, I've had good luck with American Home Shield. I've been pleased with the idea of it. It’s like insurance on your appliances and if something goes out, you only have to pay a $100 max to fix it. And if it can’t be fixed, you get a new appliance and you still only pay a $100.

My appliances wouldn't work. I put the stove in self-clean and it completely shut off. Then, it was my microwave. It was almost a domino effect. I called and spoke with a representative from AHS, and it was awesome. The reps was very helpful and they kept asking me questions like, "What else can we do? Is there anything else?" They even called and followed up to see if the contractor showed up. It's been a great experience with them.
My son said that the very first contractor was very rude. When he came in, my son gave him the booties to put on his feet because our carpets had just been cleaned. The contractor got mad about that and was slamming things down. But when he came back, he was a lot more professional. On the other hand, the KitchenAid person who came out for the microwave was awesome! He was so friendly and really nice. Even the guy who did my water heater was great. I would refer them to someone because the service was so good. With everything combined, it took about a month for them to fix all of the appliances. I had to wait almost 30 days for the fuse to come in for the stove but that ended up taking two weeks. But I'm very happy with American Home Shield. The service was great and I've referred them to two co-workers of mine.

There was a panel inside the heating unit that was going bad so the air conditioner's heating unit wasn't turning on when it got to the temperature where it needed to turn on. I submitted my claim for American Home Shield online and I got a callback within 24 hours. However they weren’t able to come out for about five days because they were booked up. It was right at the beginning of the cool weather and everybody was calling in with their heating issues.
We didn’t have any heat for a week but when the contractor came out we were lucky and he had the part in his truck. He was able to change it right then and it has been working fine since. He was very nice and very courteous. We were thinking about getting one of those smart thermostats and asked him about it. He gave me his insight on that and told me which ones he would recommend. It was nice to get that information.
While this experience was good I also had bad experiences. I had a plumbing issue and the gentleman who came looked like he was a homeless person. He was unpleasant and not very courteous. He said, “We don’t do that." I have had plumbing issues three times and each time has not been the best. Moreover, they don't have the best plumbers. One time I had an issue with the toilet not filling backup with water. They came and fixed it but it only worked for a day so I had to call it in again and they had to come out again.
It's annoying that I had to take off of work to wait here for them for four hours. This plumber was more professional than the other one but didn’t do the job right. I'm a realtor and they are not who I recommend. I've had them for many years and I have thought about switching but because I didn't want to go through the problem with a preexisting thing if I switch to a new company I stay with them. But if I had to do it all over again I would not go with them.
Michele, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

I had problems with my igniter so I called AHS and it was wonderful with their reps. I had to wait a little bit over the phone but it was not that bad. In fact, it’s better now than it used to be. I used to wait for a long time. Then, I had two different contractors and both of them were very professional. The heating is working pretty good since the repair. I've never had a problem with AHS and I’ve given out recommendations to several people.

AHS was always there when I needed them and the timespans of the appointments that they were able to schedule for me were very good. Recently, the water heater wasn't working. I ended up calling in a claim for it and they were able to take ownership of the issue and set me up with a local plumber within the area so I could schedule an appointment. The guy who came out quicker addressed the issue and figured out that a new heater was going to be needed. He was able to answer basic questions that I had and he had access to everything that he needed. Three days after that, he came and replaced the heater. Things were taken care of within a week which was quicker than what I thought. Now, my water heater looks like a brand new replacement as the contractor replaced nearly everything surrounding the issue.
There was a time when we all thought that we may not need warranty at times, but it was in those times that I ended up needing one. So for homeowners, AHS is something that is well worth the investment. They were able to give me a discount every year which was a big surprise and I'm definitely grateful for that. I'm very satisfied with my experience with AHS.

I had an issue with the water coming out from underneath my washing machine. We're a family of seven and we needed that, so I went online and put in a claim for my service. The guy that was assigned was super helpful and wonderful. He was a nice gentleman that assessed that it was actually a clog in the pipe behind the washer. Then he went back and put in his notes what he believed it was, and they did a referral to the plumber. The plumber was assigned the next day and was here the day after that, and he fixed it in 10 minutes.
With every single call, the staff that comes out is professional. They come out when they say they're going to come out. The only time that there was an issue was when I needed something to happen faster than it was happening. They explained how the process worked to me, and now that I understand the process, I don't get upset. Everyone with American Home Shield has always been very good about explaining things in a common sense way. And they have told me, “If you ever have an issue that is more urgent, you just need to let us know and we will make things happen quicker for you.”
This is our second home we've used American Home Shield in and this would be the fifth year total. If there's an issue, I just call them and they take care of it. I never have to worry about big ticket items in my house breaking and thinking that I'm going to have to spend a lot of money out of pocket because this home plan covers for those unexpected events. There were two occasions where the contractor companies tried to upsell on me, but I understand that they're private vendors that get contracts. I called and reported them to American Home Shield, and they're always apologetic. They’ve been a good company to have any experience with.

I had a pool heater replaced, and the contractor that American Home Shield sent was absolutely awesome. I was so busy at the time, so it was hard to work around my schedule, but he did. He came at 6:30 to deliver the thing, and then he came back later to hook it up. It’s been great since the repair, and I’m really thankful that I had American Home Shield. So, I renewed it already. You can’t go wrong with American Home Shield. I’d definitely recommend them.

The seal in a booster pump for the cleaner on my pool was leaking so American Home Shield replaced the seal and that required a replacement for the impeller. I submitted the claim online and their website interface was okay although I’m surprised sometimes because I have to go find my contract. I have this renewed every year on the anniversary date and it’s okay to log in and it shows valid through the next year May. I have to go in and select which contract. Thinking there’s only one contract, it would just automatically default to the contract that’s available. But it says, “Your contract is expired.” But then if I go in and pull down another one, it says, “Oh, yeah. This one’s good.” It has an old one that it’s defaulting to when I log in and I have to find the existing one that is currently available.
I have had to call at times because the online system didn’t show it so it’s been a mixed bag. I’d really prefer the online because a lot of times, there’s a wait when you call so there has been at times, issues trying to find the correct contract. Other than that, it’s straightforward. The reps are very professional and very helpful and the technicians have all been good. One of the reasons why I keep renewing is I typically move a lot and I’m in areas where I don’t know different contractors so it’s good to know that someone is reviewing them and making sure they’re valid. And I’m sure if they get complaints, they’ll get deferred from the list.
A lot of people will get twisted up about what’s covered and what’s not covered. In my mind, American Home Shield has done a good job of making sure I know what that is whenever I sign up for the contract so I’m never really surprised by what’s covered or not covered. I just work within the rules. The contract can be a little convoluted and the terminology can be confusing to people if they’re not familiar with what is what. It’s a legal document so once you get a lawyer involved, it’s going to get complicated. American Home Shield is a good insurance policy against the major breakage in your home. I use it more than my homeowner’s insurance.

Only one burner was working on my electric stove. I called American Home Shield out to see about it and getting through was a matter of minutes. They treated me very well. I did a thing online, too. The guy came out and then all the burners worked. He was professional. He tested each one and he knew how to do it. As he got them on, they worked. But he didn’t find a problem and I didn’t see one as he worked. He said I have 30 days to see if it would go out again. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I have recommended them to a couple of people.

Our garbage disposal stopped working and it was leaking from the bottom. The process of submitting a claim was easy. I was able to get in the system and file the claim. I like the fact that they're automated and then they sent the email. It seemed immediately and the guy was ready to come out the very next day. So, it was a really good process. The contractor was very friendly, and engaged. He was able to identify the problem very quickly and fixed it, and cleaned up the mess that he made, and was out in no time. So, definitely, he was very professional. American Home Shield is continuously improving their. From the last time I used them to this time, it seems that there has been improvement every time I use them. I don’t have any complaints.
When I got on American Home Shield, my son was with another company and he finally went with American Home Shield. I was actually going to fix that garbage disposal and he said, “No, no. You use your American Home Shield. So, if it's broken, they'll just put in a new one." I said, "You know, I didn’t even think about that." We actually trade information, and I got him to go with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield was great to deal with. My recent claim has something to do with my washing machine. It was very old, was not working properly and the machine was no longer made. I was without a washing machine for a few days, it was more like having a machine that sounded like a motor barreling through my house. I made the claim to AHS for a serviceman to come out. He contacted me and I followed through whatever they told me to do. There were a lot of repair involved. They were going to have to send two people up to try to do it and they could not even guarantee it was going to be functional when repaired. So I purchased a new washing machine and AHS switched it out. I picked the machine and I did not take what they offered me. I sent them the receipt and they took care of it very quickly and I got a check from them. My only complaint with AHS is when you call there's always a very, very long waiting time on the phone.

I’ve kept American Home Shield for 10 years now. The contractors that they’ve sent out to my house had been fabulous. I’m really really happy with them. They were super friendly and personable. He made sure to take care of everything we needed. I had a repair going on in my garage and it took two or three visits but I was never charged again. They just took a couple of trials to get the resolution.
American Home Shield was user-friendly but I’d love it if it costs less to have a visit. I hope they don't raise their rates again. But American Home Shield gave me peace of mind just knowing that they’d go in and they get everything resolved. I’ve been satisfied with their work. There are things that aren’t covered but generally with that $75 fee most of the technicians will use that means to charge with the parts if something isn’t included.

We called American Home Shield to submit a claim because our dryer wasn't heating. Their reps were fine and they set us up an appointment immediately. The contractor came the next day. We've never had a problem with American Home Shield. We have an old house that we bought and we've had six calls in eight months and American Home Shield has always been really good. After the repair, our dryer has been working fine. When our furnace was acting up, I called them and they were terrific. The representative took my information, put my claim in, and gave me the phone number of the company that would be doing the service so I could call them. And that's what I did. I called the company and as soon as I hung up the phone with them, they already had all of my information and we made arrangements for them to come out. The contractor was very professional and polite, and he explained everything he was doing, so I really liked the contractor. I was able to turn the furnace on and off and I had a bunch of space heaters. So, we weren't terribly inconvenienced, but it was a little stressful. The contractor they've sent out was lovely. I have been with American Home Shield for years because their Pick 10 program was pretty good. However, there was a time when if I call, I would have to be on hold forever but that has gotten better. My furnace when out and I called to put in a routine service call for them to come out and have a technician come to take a look at a self-plaster. In the meantime, my furnace started back working again. So, I called American Home Shield back to tell them that. American Home Shield then told me that the ticket would be open for 30 days. So, if the furnace went out again, I could call them back so they'd open a ticket up again which I thought was great.
They went into their system and said South Plaster had put in a claim and that they were on their way out to our residence when I called in to cancel. But what really ticked me off was that South Plaster put down a date when I had already left the house. So, how could they come out and do a service call when I wasn't even living there any more during the day they said they came out?
So I called American Home Shield back and asked, "As many times and as long and however many years I've had you, guys, and I have always renewed my contract for years with you, guys. When was the first time I ever not paid you, guys, for anything you came out for? Whether it was my furnace or the AC or anything else, when have I ever not paid you, guys, whatever the service fee?" I told them to look into my account so they could see how many times they've been to my house and I have always paid them. I had to call back every single day and stay on it so they could launch an investigation and take care of the problem. I'm not going back to American Home Shield after this experience. They should've done their own due diligence. I would also tell my friends to shop around for other home warranty programs. They should look into their research too and ask a lot of questions as far as the contractors the company uses.

I am a new customer to AHS and I cannot say it's been a good experience, We used the online tool to submit three requests at the same time as we had a dishwasher, stove and washing machine all fail at the same time. The hook up to the service agent was efficient and the guy turned up when promised to look at the items. Here things began to go wrong. The service tech was very uncommunicative with my wife. The Dishwasher had been disconnected from the water supply as it was flooding our basement, only after talking twice to AHS on the phone (this took 1.5 hours of hold time to get thru) did we find out that the repair tech wanted the machine reconnected to diagnose the fault, not one word was said to us at the time, no message was received from AHS, if we had not called to ask why we had heard nothing for 10 days we would still be waiting in ignorance.
This obstacle seems to have then stopped the two other issues being processed by AHS. To get to a further movement on the washing machine in particular has taken 3 further calls so far, each call taking on average 30 to 45 mins to reach someone. First it was "the tech has not submitted the report" then it was "the report needs to be evaluated" then it was "we will call the tech and instruct repairs to happen," then I call the tech he has heard nothing but he says he's surprised AHS will repair the unit as the cost of repair will exceed replacement. Then I talk again to AHS and it's, "Oh yes it's to be replaced. Let me transfer you to that department." 1 hour later cut off. Call again, 45 mins later speak to someone to be told, "Yes it's replace. Let me look at the comparable model, ok now we need to submit for approval on the comparable model, we will call you back, no call back so far 24 hours later.
I asked what is the comparable model being told, "We cannot tell you until it is approved." So here we are 20 days after reporting our problems none are resolved. Dishwasher not even started. Stove, I haven't even tried to progress this as the washing machine is my priority. We have no washing machine, half a stove no dishwasher and no idea when anything will get fixed. I have spent 5 hours on the phone. To date average hold time for any call is 30 to 40 mins, once you get thru people are lovely but nothing progresses to conclusion. Finally AHS has no mechanism for its customers to complain. I wonder why?
Hi Pete

I have used AHS for only 6 months and regret using this company already. Only 2 service requests and both failed miserably with no resolution after $200 service fee cost. Every call wait time is 32 mins to over an hour. Then you get false promises of what's to be done. To save some time, I'll only write about one of these experiences - My stove vent fan is bad so first service was Nov 2017. It's now 1/31/18, same situation, No repair and No replacement. Lack of communication from AHS and their contractors. No Accountability. Untrustworthy. Unclear and shady procedures within AHS. Different reps will tell you different things and never follow through. They never call me to update status or followup even after they promised.
Luckily, I'm proactive and call them but wait time is about 1 hour or longer. Then they promised they'll have the unit removed and install new one. I paid partly for the new unit that they selected for me. When unit arrived, contractor said it's not perfect fit so I have to get modification and that's my cost. It's their contractor's measurement and it's AHS who picked out the unit. I paid partly for the unit because their bottom grade unit is not comparable to what I have. Ok fine, I can get a granite company to cut the stone (by a millimeter?) but the contractor has to remove the unit first, right?
The contractor dragged 2 months without an appointment to come out to remove the unit. AHS said they have authorized them to come remove it so I have to keep calling them. 2 months dragged on then I complained to AHS to get different contractor. AHS then told me that it's not up to me to decide, it's up to them. They promised to call them to work it out.
No one called me back. I waited a few days to contact AHS again then they told me that they will not pay to remove the unit. They will only pay to install it because they won't pay for both. Doesn't make sense. I complained that no one ever told me that in the 3 months and dozens of calls with them. They have everything recorded so they can't deny it and didn't deny it. This rep knew I was right. He apologize but I won't accept it. He basically just told me that they are not paying and that it's too bad. I want service to my unit as promised.
I request to talk to a manager right away and he said they don't have managers that can talk to me.They have to submit a request and have them call me back. As per my request, he wrote in a formal complaint and request a supervisor to contact me within 48 hours. It's been 48 hours, no one contacted me. It's why I'm on ConsumerAffairs and next will be BBB.org and every other warranty review organization and blog out there.
I spend $800 out of pocket in total with this company in 6 months period. If I had used that money to get local pro help. I would have gotten it done. With AHS, you'll have to wait for everything from calls to service to any resolution/repair if any. I waited and followed every instruction they gave me for 3 months. In the end, they lied to me and refused to remove the old unit when they promised multiple times that they had authorized it and see it in the system. For the future, I will take notes of every conversation with date and time and name of the representative because I heard too often that "oh that report is somehow not in the system. I don't see it." They record everything. I don't buy that for a second. I have 2 rental condo which I was considering getting warranty for but decided to test drive AHS first. Glad I test it out first. It's not happening.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your furnace repaired. I would be glad to follow up with you and resolve the issues.

We had a stopped up garbage disposal. I tried to call American Home Shield to submit the claim but I was on the phone for 45 minutes and never got an answer. I submitted it online instead and got a call from the contractor within an hour. The technician came out the next day so it was an excellent experience. He was awesome and the garbage disposal was fixed really quick. I was very happy with it.

I filed a claim with AHS over the phone for plumbing and appliances. AHS reps were really great. They were very friendly and helpful. However, the first contractor they sent out said they can’t find the cleanout line. My husband works for a plumbing company so he said, “There’s a cleanout right here.” But they said they can’t use those and they left. The second one that came put in a new hot water heater and over-floating which came out of pocket. But they never did turn on my salt tank again. And when I went to turn it on, the pipe busted above and I had to have the plumber come out in the middle of the night to bypass it. I mentioned it to AHS when I called back for the appliances, but they said they’re not going to refund me for it. I don’t even have my salt tank hooked up right now so I'd have to call AHS again and pay another $75.
As for my appliances, the contractors came out, they looked at it and the gentleman went ahead and said, “You need to order some parts.” And then, I told him that the refrigerator either makes ice cubes or ice chunks and that it hasn’t made crushed ice for a while. He said that there's something wrong with the spring. Somebody put it in the wrong way. When he went ahead and changed that around, we now only get crushed ice, no more ice cubes, and the refrigerator still gets really hot like it got cracked all over in the back of it. They were supposed to come back out and finish fixing the dryer.
The washing machine was fixed. However, the dishwasher rack was put in the wrong way so I couldn’t pull it out all the way. I’ve got tired of waiting for them so I fixed that myself. And then, I had an appointment with them but I had a family emergency and I left a message and I have not heard back from them. They were friendly people though. Overall, American Home Shield is a great company. If something breaks in your home, it’s a good backup plan if you’re not able to do the fix yourself. I also told numerous homeowners about it.

I have my furnace inspected twice a year and when I had it inspected recently, the carbon monoxide reading was high so it had to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and requested a company that a patient of mine had used. A couple of years earlier, my compressor went out on my air conditioning unit and the company they sent was a total nightmare. It took that company five weeks to get it resolved, so I didn't want them back. AHS sent some other company and they were good. However, I had to call them back because when they left, the furnace was making a loud sound. American Home Shield sent the company right back and it turned out that one of the guys hooked up some of the wires wrong. They fixed it and since then, the furnace has been working fine. As I chiropractor, I see a lot of people throughout the day, and I've always recommended American Home Shield because 99% of the time, I have a good experience with them.

My microwave went out on Thanksgiving Day when a part completely died. I called American Home Shield and they gave me a claim number for the repairman. The process was very smooth and the contractor that was sent out was very good. He called me and he was very friendly and polite. He came when he was supposed to then he looked at the problem and figured out what was wrong with it. He had to order the part which took a bit longer than he said, but it was not a big deal. Then he came in and put it back, and now the microwave is working fine. It was a very favorable experience and I would recommend American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield for my heater. The reps are fine, but it takes an hour to talk to somebody. The phone service could be improved. I asked them why would it take an hour for me to get talk to somebody, and the rep said they have so many things going. They need to hire more people. Also, the last few contractors that I've had were horrible. I get them out and they don’t do what they're supposed to. They say it looks like everything is fine and it's working. Then they leave and it goes out again. So then I have to go through the whole thing again. They come out with somebody else and then they try to fix it and do all that. The last time, it took me five times before it was fixed and only one thing was fixed because I just gave up on it. I was so done with it. The guy who came out was just plain out rude.

We just bought the home about a year ago with American Home Shield included by our realtor. We've actually had to use the warranty a couple of times and it has been a good experience overall. The heater, it turned out, had a cracked heat exchanger and we had been having problems basically since we moved in. It's actually probably been looked at around four times.
So at first it was an issue with the fan. And It think we had a fan motor replaced through AHS. And then a few months ago we were noticing little black puffs of debris out of one of the vents. So I had to call again and a fellow came out and told us we had a cracked heat exchanger, which we were kind of worried about anyhow. So they had to replace the whole furnace. They came and did it that day.
As we found there are always added things that you don't account for. So I think it probably still ended up with a cost around $3,000. We were able to save a couple bucks because I ran the chimney liner myself. So it still cost $1,000 out of pocket, which overall wasn't too bad. So once you think about when you have a type of warranty plan, such as the one through American Home Shield, is that nothing is going to be free. But it helps negate some of the cost, which is nice. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The refrigerator stopped working so I called American Home Shield. It took 40 minutes for somebody to pick up the phone. But the guy who took the claim was pretty good. He provided us the company name. They sent the email right away. The contractor came to check the refrigerator. They said the board was lost and they took 10 days to replace the board. They needed to wait for the part from American Home Shield. Once they got the part, the lady called in to make the appointment two days later. The guy who showed up was very professional. He did his job. It took 40 minutes to fix the problem, and he left. He just replaced the electrical board behind the refrigerator.

My dishwasher was kaput. I called American Home Shield and the rep I talked to was very nice. The contractor who came out was superb as well. He made sure that he cleaned up after himself, that he showed me how to turn it on, and that everything was working. A lot of people that came here didn't do that and left everything on the floor. But this man even took the old dishwasher with him to destroy it. I also filed a claim for my air conditioning and the man who came out for that was polite and made sure that the heat came on. He cleaned up after himself, too.
But the contractor who came to fix the oven hood charged me $75. He was not supposed to do that since I would pay American Home Shield that amount which I did. He said he had to do some extra repair work and that was why he had to charge me that amount. But all he did was the cut the wire off and bore the little hole behind the oven hood. Still, I wrote him a check. Then I sent the receipt to American Home Shield as they told me to send it in. I did that about three weeks ago and I haven’t heard from anybody. Other than that, I would tell friends to get AHS.

There was a leak in my garage and I made an initial call for the first responder that American Home Shield sent in. But that person did not come until 9:00 after one week of calling. They also made two holes beside the water heater that stands out on a stand. I thanked them and told them to go. I then called American Home Shield and asked for another person to come out. The second company was wonderful. As a matter of fact, they had done work in my house before. They knew my name and my address. I even already had them on my cell phone. Within two days from me calling, the guys came between the designated time set and they stayed until 3:00 and they were able to get the leak fixed. They also told me that was not under my slab, my cement.
What was repaired has been working but I need to follow up because American Home Shield said I had to call back but I skipped it. When the plumber makes a hole in the wall, I have to call American Home Shield to have a carpenter come back. We called immediately after the next day to tell them that the problem was fixed and they said they would have a carpenter come out but I’m still waiting on that.
When a customer has a two-step service, like anytime it’s a plumber and they’re having to go into the sheetrock, there should be some follow-up from American Home Shield, at least a one-week follow-up. They get the plumber to come out and do what he does. He would call and make sure that if there is any sheetrock work or anything that we need to know so that we can see if it’s still in our plan and if we need someone out there. That would be nice.
Also, they need to take a little bit more effort in looking at the rating of the provider before they send them out on a call because I found out later that the particular service provider they sent had a really low rating, like a 300. That’s supposed to be really bad. I wouldn’t send that person out to anyone, period. As a matter of fact, AHS should make a rating that anyone that’s under 400, they won't send out to anybody.
Other than that, AHS was responsive and they didn’t charge me for the second visit. I have been with them a long time and have recommended them to my family. The service pays for itself after the first call. The cost now went up to an $85 call. It was different from when I was a part of them 10 years ago. As a homeowner, one should make sure they read the fine print of everything that the warranty covers because there might be a need to buy extra coverage.

My first appliance claim with American Home Shield was excellent. They replaced my dryer and the service person that came out was exceptional. He was great in helping me with what I needed. My next claim was with my microwave and I got the microwave delivered okay, but the company that was supposed to come and install it has not been successful. I called the company yesterday to let them know and they switched me over to someone else. That was the only bad experience I’ve had.
The first time they were supposed to come, which was a Wednesday, we had bad weather here in Lake Charles. So, I didn’t expect them to come that day. But then he scheduled me for Thursday, a Friday, and a Saturday. And I was going on a trip, and they never called me to say that they weren't coming, and never called to reschedule the appointment. I called yesterday to let the company know that. But as far as AHS, I have no complaints against them. Everything went well. Their claims process was easy. Being a first-time user, I had a few little hitches. When you call you have to go punch a number and it took me a little while to get to the right department. But other than that, everything worked out great. I'd recommend them.

The customer service was terrible and my experience with American Home Shield wasn't very good. Last year, the compressor of my air conditioner went out. My claim for that issue went okay and they got my AC working, except that I had to pay $500 for Freon. Then the heating unit went out in the AC and when I submitted a claim for this issue, the rep told me that it would cost $600 to get the heating unit fixed because they'd have to put a unit in, then they'd have to put in Freon which costs $90 a pound. I told them, "No way," and that we'd just sleep with blankets. But the rep told me this was stated in the contract I signed with AHS.
I called and asked for a supervisor a month ago and she finally called me today. I said that I'd call the Fire Department of the State of Florida to get their opinion since it was a ripoff. I had no coverage if I had to buy Freon. But she told me that was the way it was. I asked for the return of my $75 deductible but this was refused since the contractor had already come out. But the contractor was overcharging. The heater still doesn’t work, but I'm not going to pay $600 to fix an AC and also pay $500 for my AHS warranty.

I heard a noise from my water heater inside the house last December 29th. It was in the late afternoon on a Friday. So, I checked and the water heater was leaking. It was probably busted inside so I turned off the water and gas. I called American Home Shield and they connected me right away to a contractor. The men came but they had to come back to us within 24 business hours because it was the coming weekend which was fine. Then, when AHS called me back for the appointment for Monday, I told them that I will be out of town for an emergency in San Francisco. So they gave me an appointment for the following Monday. In the meantime, during the weekend that the contractor can’t come, I had 50-gallon water and if it leaked, my whole house will be carpeted with it. I ended up calling some guy and paid him $50 to empty it out so my house won’t be full of water while I’m gone.
Come Monday, the guy sent by AHS came and he looked at the water heater for 5 minutes. He said I needed a new water heater then left. He also told me that he’ll call back in an hour. I gave him the serial number but he didn’t call me the whole day and I had no hot water. The next morning, I called AHS and they got a hold of the contractor. The contractor called me and said they were going to pay and bring another water heater but it will be by Friday. But it was cold that week and I told them I have no hot water. My wife had to go to 24 Hour Fitness to take shower while I had to take the cold shower. So I pushed the contractor and he said they’ll do it by Thursday.
They called me in between and said that there will be an extra cost as it will not be covered by our insurance. He gave me a cost of $585. I told him I didn’t know what it was but I have new wall connection pipes because I had the house remodeled so I told him to change everything. He said it was still not covered and they cannot come until Thursday. So, I called another plumber and he came and took my water heater. We went to the distributor and they exchanged it for us. The new heater cost me $671 and they gave me a warranty credit of $440. So, I was out of pocket by $230. Then, the plumber came, put it back, and cleaned up everything. I gave him $300 which I thought was cheap but at least I got it done by Tuesday.
Tuesday evening, I called the contractor as well as AHS to tell them to cancel the service as I didn’t need it. AHS asked me why and I said that the contractor wanted to charge me money but I can get the whole thing down in that money. It took a very slow call and we couldn't negotiate. I told them that I’ve been taking the cold shower and they wanted me to wait and talk to them back and forth. And on top of that, I had to $100 for the failed service. It was a little bit hard for me and I told the AHS rep that I will not use them again.
But the lady who I spoke with in the morning was nice. I had another problem two months ago and the contractor that AHS sent out was great. Those guys came right away and fixed the problem. I even sent a referral and it was a great experience. I've been with AHS for five years and a half, and they were also great when I had an issue four years ago. I usually have a good experience with them, but the water heater claim happened to be a bad time in a hole, and I thought water heater is an emergency. It was very frustrating.

I made a claim for the stove, fridge, and dishwasher a couple of weeks ago and the rep at American Home Shield has been great. But the folks that they contracted were a little difficult. One guy did not show up until after then, they were not the nicest, friendliest folks. There were three different people for the three appliances and a four-hour window. It was ridiculous. The first time, the guy didn’t show up and I had another four-hour window to set up with him so it was a waste of time. The stove guy was okay while the fridge guy got better. The stove had a missing part that the technician said that AHS didn’t cover it. I ended up ordering the part because it was too much hassle to deal with. Then, with the refrigerator, the technician adjusted the temp and it seems to be working better.
The dishwasher guy was nice but he gave some report that AHS denied the fix. It would be great if I could get a little bit more insight from AHS to understand why a claim is denied. But the woman I spoke with wasn’t very receptive to discussing it so it was a very difficult conversation at the beginning until I had to ask very specific questions. I asked about what was covered and I know they cannot list every specific instance of what will and won’t be covered. I was trying to explain that to her and she wasn't getting that. It wasn't the best conversation until I explained to her exactly what the part was. So, she got a little bit better and sent a GE guy out who was great. The GE guy was the best service person.
If I had a good conversation prior and I could maybe assess it myself, that would be great. We’re spending our $75 to get someone out and I take a half day off to be at home which I had to do twice for the appliance guys. I’d tell people to find out who they contract with because that was not a question that I asked. Then, do the review because the reviews on American Home Shield seemed to be good but try to find out who the contractors are like in their area.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years and I've submitted a handful of claims, and they've all been resolved well. Recently my toilet was running and they sent out a plumber promptly, but it didn’t fix the problem. He came back out and he still hasn’t fixed it. I put in another claim today and they've scheduled him to come out again. American Home Shield has done their end of things, but the problem is a little trickier than the plumber thought.
However, American Home Shield doesn’t take calls. They put you on an extended hold so they know no one will take their call. If you're a returning customer on an issue, you ought to be able to talk to somebody. Since they've already sent somebody out, you should already be in a queue where you can actually get to somebody much more quickly. I didn’t know when I submitted a new claim if I would be charged a new rate for it. It would have been nice to be able to have somebody to talk me through it. Also, the coverage has become more limited over the years so the things that were covered are not covered now. I had a problem with a leaky faucet outside the house and it wasn’t clear that that wasn’t covered till the guy came out. American Home Shield does a good job but people need to read the contract closely and know what's covered.

The control board on my AC that took the reading from the thermostat and told the heater what to do was not reading right. So, the fan stayed on constantly which was not comfortable considering it was extremely cold outside. But praise God the heat did still work some, so it stayed a nice 50-ish in here which was better than outside temperature. It was New Year's Eve when we first discovered it and I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online on my phone. I'm over 51 and so sometimes with websites, I'm like, "Really, can I?". But their website was easy to navigate. I understand and I'm getting better.
The guy came in and had to make two trips. He worked on it the first time and they had to order a part. It was an inconvenience but it's fixed. And you don't know what all those stuff is until you get in there, fix the first thing and see if it affected the second thing and apparently that's what happened. It was one of those things I understand. And the contractors were great. If I had any complaint it's because they were coming out of Birmingham and they were only in our area two days of the week. I thought I could have gotten it fixed a few days if they were in the area. But I get it and it's a lot of logistics. Also, I didn't want to see my electric bill at first but it wasn't that bad. They did a great job. But we have had a situation which I was not thrilled about which was more with the technicians. They showed up, picked it up, and didn't get any responses.
AHS has done a great job for me. I've had them since we bought this house and I just kept it. Anytime we've had an issue, they've been great. They've also been very fair on things. When we had a microwave put, they were like, "Hey, here's your budget. Here are your options, which way do you want to go?" They said I could go to Lowe's and pick up my own and they would just send me a check. I went up there and I was like, "Yeah, I can install this myself versus waiting two more weeks for the dude to come back." They were flexible. It's a peace of mind and easy to use.

During the first time, the person came out but the freezer was cold at that time so they could not do anything. The first few times, it was a Sears person who was sent out and he was fine. He said that the policy says that if they cannot see what is wrong, then they will not do anything. That was frustrating when your ice is melting out of the freezer. This time, luckily, when the guy came out, it was too warm and he knew the fan was not working. So, he put an order for a freezer fan and then later replaced that. This was the third time they have come over the course of the year, and this time they actually have fixed the problem. They have all been professional and polite.

When I needed AHS for maintenance work in my house, their work has been very good. I don't use my policy that much but it's been a lifesaver because my air conditioning in New Orleans goes out periodically. If I bring somebody in, it could cost anywhere from 100 to 400 and I may not have that money to lay out. With AHS, I pay $50 a month, which is easy. Then if something happens, I pay $75 for the visit and that’s all I have to pay. It's convenient that way. Also, I’m retired and it doesn’t blow my budget.
When I filed a plumbing claim with them, it was very interesting. I filed it online and it was convenient. Then AHS called me and the people I’ve spoken to were very nice. The plumbers they sent were good, too. On their first visit, they pushed the portion where the clog was situated and water seemed to be running further down the line. However, within a couple of days, it backed up again and the pipes broke due to the freeze we had in New Orleans. I called them and they came out again. They found the access pipe outside and they fixed it without charging me.
AHS should improve their maintenance on kitchen stuff, though. They would try to match what you have, but you don’t have any control of the color. I have a white kitchen and they wanted to give me a black refrigerator. So I'd have to redo everything for the new refrigerator. I also had two burners and the starter on one of them was broken. AHS wanted to replace the stove but said that they couldn't get the same model so they'd get me another model. But I love that stove, plus, my kitchen was custom-made and that particular stove fits in.

The furnace was making a noise and it turned out to be the condensate line is frozen under the house. The contractor tried to blow it out and tried to hop on it and get it to where the ice would break loose but it wouldn't. And so he said that when the weather warmed up it would melt and it should be okay. Within the next day that actually happened. The temperature went above. It was about 38 or 39 degrees so at that point it finally did break loose and I haven't had any more problems with it.
The technician American Home Shield sent was very knowledgeable and very courteous and did everything that he could do within the limits of my policy to help me rectify the situation. He was very nice. It's not 20 degrees every day for two weeks. Everything is fine and he suggested that I have my blinds wrapped or insulated when I got a chance. He said that would keep it from freezing. So I will do that. I always have good results with my Home Shield. That's why I kept it for so long. The warranty is invaluable to me because I live on a fixed income and I can usually come up with $75 to pay the copay on it, where I wouldn't be able to come up with a $1,000 to fix a major problem. I am very satisfied with having the policy and will continue to keep it.

American Home Shield had sent out Hotboys for our air conditioning situation. Don't ever deal with this people. They came out and told us that it was not under warranty, but then, they gave us a $5,000 air conditioning unit which we could buy through them. Then, they charged us for the air cooling that they never put in at all.
Recently, we contacted American Home Shield again to let them know we had a build up in our water system that had been dealt with several times. So they sent someone out to take a picture, and the next thing I heard on my answering machine was the office calling to tell me that my $100 claim was denied because the person that came out felt we had pulled it apart. Since I keep everything documented, I called back to try my best to get to Amanda, their representative, to tell her that I didn't pull anything apart.
They said we had to go through a process to have another company come back for follow up. They also told us they have guidelines and can't replace anything. The second people that came out said out it was nature-related and they would credit me back. We've had this problem ongoing because of the power pump we have. So they unplugged the sink to keep it going and then took the $75. Overall, the people that American Home Shield uses are my biggest beef. Overall, American Home Shield's customer service is not bad. In fact, they were nice. However, the one thing I was worried about is I waited almost two hours to talk to them. By the time I get to them, I was frustrated.

Second Technician told that he is going to come back for repairing ceiling fan. Called the second agency for schedule and they said, "Your insurance company denied." Called the American Home Shield and asked them to cancel the contract because they refuse repairs. Representative told me that they will charge me one month fee for cancellation. Horrible, Horrible experience.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for two toilets and three sinks and they were fast in sending out a contractor. I told them it was not urgent, so the contractor came out in three days. Although he did a fantastic job, he only did two toilets and one sink. He said he had to go and he needed to do what was on the record. I’m very happy with the service that I received, but not with the after-service. American Home Shield gave me good service initially, but after sales they didn’t call me. They said they will do the sinks, but I couldn't even get through them. I called them about five times and was on hold for an hour. I was also given the wrong number. I was frustrated, but it was partly my fault for not waiting an hour on hold. One day, I called about 5:00 and then there was about a three-minute wait which was much better. I tell people how great American Home Shield is and refer them.

I believe in home warranties especially if you have an older home that's 15 plus years old. It's worth it, gives peace of mind, and serves people who don't have $17,000 just sitting in the bank. I’ve used American Home Shield for five years and I just renewed in January. When I first started business with them, I made a phone call to submit my claims. But these days, you can either call them or do it online. They even have an app on the phone now. I prefer going online because it's easy. Also, it’s all temporary on the phone but the computer is a little bit more stable with the emails and going back and forth. The whole thing is usually done within a week. AHS is really easy to work with and they are always good at picking the right vendors to do the work. I just wish they have better air conditioning brand coverage.
I had an air conditioner that went out a year and a half ago. They repaired it but it went out again. So, I just replaced it but I didn't do any claim with AHS because I bought a brand new unit. Then, two months ago, my garage door blew up. The gear popped off at the top of it and came flying down from the ceiling. I requested for service online then I got one phone call from Smokey's Garage Door. Their guy showed up when they said he was going to and he was here for twenty minutes. He made everything better than it was, so the experience was so painless.

I submitted a claim with AHS for the heat pump. That was done over the phone and they were able to get a technician shortly. They sent somebody out from Montgomery and they were the nicest people that I've dealt with. I had to go to the doctor and left my wife to be in charge. She has even bragged on them. They came the first day to look. They came back the next morning with the unit and got the job completed. They stayed till after dark. They knew what they were doing and it wasn't easy where they had to get to. It was under the house and the opening under there was small, but they did it. So far, so good. We have been freezing and the heat pump kept us warm. I'd tell others that my experience with AHS was satisfactory.
Before, I held on the phone for two hours and that was too long to wait. But they explained to me that after all the tornados and everything, they've had a lot of calls. Nevertheless, they have all been polite and tried to keep everything clean when they came in the house. AHS is the best that I've dealt with. I had an electrician here and he used to come within the next five days but he told me to go with AHS and let them do it. So, that's why I recommended them.

American Home Shield has always been quick to respond and send out capable people of doing repairs. Now, I have an old washing machine that sounds like a jackhammer and vibrates so much that it dances across the floor. The technicians have been out four times and they still have not been able to fix it. I called them and they kept saying that they were going to send somebody or they were going to make the call to American Home Shield. I should be receiving the call in 24 hours and I never got the call.
I called American Home Shield and they now have a new system which says, their phone lines are so busy that I'll have to standby for over 30 minutes. That's nothing but a maneuver to push everybody over to responding online which I have not done. I finally got to talk to somebody who said they couldn't do anything about it because they have to get back to the repair people and come to some kind of conclusion. I have been without a washing machine for about five or six weeks now. They keep bouncing me around. The first time the servicemen came out, they put shock absorbers underneath it so it wouldn't pound as much and then, they changed the springs on the internals. I tried to run a load in where I had two pairs of underpants and six handkerchiefs. When it went to the spin cycle, it was just banging away like mad. The more load I put in it, the worse it gets.
In addition, the technicians were nice but I couldn't understand them. When the first serviceman came out, I didn’t know how much he understood of what I was saying. I felt sorry for him because he was working hard, trying to make a living but just didn't know how to fix it. They told me that there was nothing wrong with the motor and the transmission but the machine was still banging mad. Also, they were supposed to call before they come out, but they don't. The technicians I've dealt before would call before they arrive and they were on time. It's disappointing and I'm seriously thinking about dropping my insurance with them, but I've dealt with them for years. I've submitted claims for the garbage disposals, my air conditioning units and my furnaces. People used to ask me about them and I'd tell them AHS is great but now, I don't.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your washer repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience as soon as possible.

My refrigerator needed repairs. I used my cell phone to call AHS and put it on speaker phone. I had to call them quite a few times and it was long every time. It took 48 minutes before somebody answered the phone and it didn't matter if I called early morning or late in the evening. They need to do something about putting people on hold that long. On the other hand, the rep that I was able to speak to was very helpful and the technician was fine this time because the last time when my dishwasher needed to be repaired, I even called and stayed on hold for 48 minutes to see if the technician was legit.
The refrigerator couldn't be repaired so, they had to replace it. I was disappointed they would offer black when all the other appliances, the cabinets, the stove are white, which the color, apparently isn't under the warranty. I had to go to a store to find one and I thought I could just accept what they offered. I ended up getting my refrigerator and got reimbursed quickly. Get AHS but be prepared to wait.

The system worked well but we found out that they didn't cover the claim since it was weather-related, so we had to pay for it out of our pocket. That caught me by surprise 'cause I thought that it was covered by the policy. I wish that they were a bit more clear about weather-related claims. Nevertheless, I learned something in the process. He had to get right to over the top of the opening and had to deal with a lot of bushes which I planted in front of the house. But once he got that done, he went about his way. When he found the problem, he solved it. The sewage line has been fantastic since the repair and it got better. Everything was done and taken care of. I am impressed with the whole procedure. We bought a home, moved in and the dishwasher wasn't working, so I filed a claim. American Home Shield hooked me up with a service company that worked on it. It worked for a little bit, and then it quit working. I contacted AHS again, they sent somebody else out and it was still under the first claim. The people who fixed the dishwasher had to order the part and it took a week for it to come in. There were several issues with my dishwasher because several parts had to be replaced and it took about two months to get it finally fixed, but now it's working very well.
Dealing with American Home Shield was easy. Plus, the contractor was professional and nice, and I liked him. Sometimes he was early and sometimes he was a little late, but I liked how he would send me a text message, letting me know he was going to arrive in 15 minutes. That way, if I was running errands, I'd get that text message and know I needed to head home. I would definitely recommend somebody who's buying a new house to get American Home Shield. It's a smart move and there's no reason not to ask for it when buying a house. We put it in our contract and got the seller to pay for it. It's a nice safety net because when we look at a house, we don't have time to check every little thing to see if it's working.

I’ve had American Home Shield since I closed on my house on October sixth of 2017, and most recently, I went online to file a claim for my AC. It was really easy to go to the website and fill everything out and I got an appointment right away. I had a service call come out and paid the $75. The guy was very professional and prompt. He did a great job pinpointing the issue and saw that the problem was fairly easy. It was a reset button which he pushed and went on his way. He also showed me the thermometer and that it was blowing cold air so it appeared everything was good.
It was a very good service but the technician should have the ability to use discretion when he has to put in some real effort or parts to fix a claim. It stung a bit to pay $75 to have someone come out and push a red button. With something like that, I would hope or think that that could be looked at, not just for me but also for other people that may be new to a home and not familiar with the equipment yet. But it's good to pay only $75 and it's a nice comfort for a new homeowner to have that warranty in place. I would recommend American Home Shield based on the $75 amount but I would also tell other people to research the Freon costs because the warranty doesn't cover it and it can come to a surprise for some people if they ever have to get additional Freon. It’s in the small print but that should be put out front.

When we moved into our home, we had some problems with our ice maker in our refrigerator. The first company that AHS sent out fixed it right away. A few months later, it broke again. So, I called AHS and this time, they sent out another company. It was a month and a half of it still not working, so I got back in touch with AHS again and they sent the first company back out. The contractor that came out to fix it was great. He's from Busy Bee Appliance and they're fantastic. They were very efficient and they were here when they said they were going to be. The contractor explained to me what was wrong and how he was going to fix it and he did some troubleshooting. It was done within three days and it was fine.
Whenever we submit a claim, we usually get online and say we need a referral for somebody. AHS sends me a text message saying that the company will call me and then within 24 hours, I get a phone call. The representatives have been wonderful when I talk to them. They're always wanting to help and are very friendly. With the most recent claim, AHS rep put in that it was a second opinion so I wouldn't be charged for whatever reason. But, it didn’t go into the system right and I started getting bills. I finally got in touch with them and asked about it. They told me it was a mistake and not to worry. They told me they were going to fix it and to disregard any bill or tax I get.
I’d tell others to get AHS, and we learned that the hard way. When we bought our house in Virginia a year and a half ago, we didn’t get a home warranty. It was offered to us and then the furnace went. We now live in Texas and we're still paying for a furnace on a house that we don't even live in. Since we moved into this house, we made sure that we had a home warranty. There have been quite a few things that have gone out and American Home Shield has stepped up. I just pay my $75 co-pay and they take care of the rest. We like American Home Shield a lot and we've had a very positive experience with them.

We got a problem with the water not draining properly in the toilets. We suspected that it was a backed up septic tank, but we weren't sure exactly what it was and I submitted the claim to AHS. The contractor came out and I paid the $125 service fee. The plumbers that were dispatched said that there was nothing wrong with the internal plumbing. They said the problem was that the septic tank was full and he suspected that the drain field was not draining properly. I was told I was going to need to call a pumper to come take care of that and they couldn't help me. I thought that we were covered for septic pumping and it turned out that we were not. It was an add-on that had to be purchased at that time when I got my policy, and I didn't realize that. I threw away $125 and had to spend another $250 to have a pumper pump the septic tank.
A month later, the septic tank was full again and I had to pay another $250 to get that pumped again. I wish I would have known that I had the option to add that septic pumping when I first signed up for it and that option would have been reviewed because I didn't realize that and would have opted for it, or they could have some waiting period or something where you could then add it on. At this point though, I'm not worried about it because everything’s taken care of now. Other than that issue, my experience with AHS has been great. It has been money well spent. I either go online or call in to submit a claim to American Home Shield, and both are ridiculous. When I go online, there's a delay when I get a call to schedule an appointment. When I call in, I literally have to wait an hour every single time before I can speak to someone, which is annoying. What I normally do is call and while I'm on hold, I take a shower, eat and clean up the house before I get to something. But when I get in touch with them, they're good. Recently, the faucets in two of my bathrooms were dripping. The contractor came, but he had to go to Home Depot to get the parts for the faucets. He was able to finish in a little over an hour.
While the service we get from American Home Shield is good and we've told quite a few of my friends about them, a lot of things are not covered. The person we bought the house from provided a one year warranty, but they only got the basic one. When the garage door broke, the AHS rep said that the policy that I have does not cover it. I asked if I could upgrade the policy, and she said no. I have to wait until the term ends, which means in January. We have a 10-year-old-house, and if anything goes wrong and it's not within the policy, it's going to have to come out of pocket. It would have been great if we were able to upgrade the policy to something that's more suitable for our family.

My washer went out over 9 days ago. It took AHS 4 days to find a tech to come out here. The tech determined that the washer was in need of being replaced. AHS said they wanted to get prices on parts to fix it. The tech said it cannot be fixed in my home. It has to be shipped out somewhere, disassembled, and rebuilt which can take 6-8 weeks! This is NOT what I signed up for when I bought this policy. My husband is 74 years old and blind and I am 71. We find ourselves walking down the road with our dirty clothes over our back to get to a laundromat. I have called AHS over a dozen times and each rep tells another story about why my machine is not being repaired or replaced. Just to get a rep takes over an hour every time on hold waiting for someone only to be told it's being "parted" out piecemeal. The next one says it is in "options"... waited 2 more days, called again and was told it is not in "options". WHAT???
I am no closer to having my washer fixed than when this whole fiasco started. I have had this contract with them for over 4 years and never had to use it before. To add insult to injury I had to pay $125 co pay just to get the tech here to tell me the washer is not repairable. AHS will not respond to anything. They just take your money and leave you hanging. I've been with American Home Shield for years now. I’ve had them come out and work on my dishwasher, my microwave and my washing machine. They couldn’t get the parts for my washing machine so they gave me money to buy a new one. It's convenient to call them out. However, there are things they do not cover and it gets frustrating.
I’m having issues with my stove and they don’t cover parts for the stove. Although most of the contractors were good, there were a couple who were not. They would usually just come out for that one thing. If there’s something else wrong and then you didn’t mention it then you’re just SOL. For instance the light on my microwave was out but the door is also wobbly. If I didn’t mention that the door was wobbly or screw had fallen out they would not fix it. But they’re professional.
I’m having them out a second time for that loose door in my microwave tomorrow. Sometimes some things have to be redone. But they come with the parts and there's just a one-time fee. One time they came out three times for a refrigerator. Yet I only had to pay the one-time service call because it was all pertaining to a single issue. They come out and see what parts they need. Then they come out when they get the part to install it.
I recommend American Home Shield. My daughter has it. I recommend them to my friends. I tell them, “Hey, if one of your hot water heater goes or your heater or air conditioner, a big ticket item, even if they didn’t cover everything, at least you get your $500 worth.” But I wish they would hire more people to answer their phones. They have a long wait time. I’ve waited as much as two and a half hours on the phone. So I definitely would say that that’s a big problem.

Interaction with the contractor all happened very quickly. It was a lot easier than I was expecting. The furnace overheated because of the filter. So, I got a new filter and he showed me how to put the filter in. I tried to get the little door open to put the filter but had been unsuccessful at doing that. Somehow, he was able to pop it off with his fingernails, which I thought was a little odd. I watched him do that and that helped. Now, the heating system is totally fine.

I submit claims to AHS over the phone and for the most part, their reps are pleasant. I had somebody that was supposed to come out today, I had to reschedule since it was late, but for the most part, they've been awesome. They called me as soon as I made the appointment and they scheduled it right away. I've had great experiences, and I've had horrible experiences. When our pool pump had gone out, we received the worst service. The pool guy came here three times and he didn't know what he was doing. Moreover, he took our pump back to his facility without telling us so we thought we were robbed. We ended up having to cancel it and getting refunded.
The pool guy brought the pump back and it's still not fixed. When he came, he was smoking. He was very unprofessional. The lady that we were working with was very nice, but she kept on going around. There was a point in time where they couldn't even get in touch with the serviceman that was coming out here. It was a nightmare.
This was the week before Christmas and we had left. Our pool is up on a hill, with the way it is placed, if our pipes flood, it floods into the neighbor's yard. We had to physically go out there, drain all the pumps and remove all the water out of the filters just to avoid that. The last time I spoke with them was two weeks ago when they were supposed to come out here. The guy was scheduled two times in between to come out here and fix it, but he was a no-show. We're still waiting on the check, but AHS is not paying for the repairs on the pool at all.
Earlier, in the middle of summer, our AC went out. When we got American Home Shield, we were told that if there's something wrong and they can't fix it, they'll replace it. However, we had to pay $3500 to replace our own AC unit, even though it was broken. We had always kept up with it, but it was just an old system. AHS is good, but it depends on what appliances need to be repaired. I would recommend them for everyday appliances, not for big appliances, like a pool pump or an HVAC unit.

When our hot water tank had stopped working, I used AHS' web interface to submit the claim and it was very simple. It had six questions and a bill you have to pay. I then heard from them within the required 24-48 hours which is really where they say within 24 business hours, but they really mean 24 count hours, unless it’s a weekend. They’re not very clear with the eight fixed hours. 24 business hours mean three days, but that’s not what they mean.
The contractor came out to assess the problem. Unfortunately, my unit was evidently something that they don’t have in stock so, it took a couple of days to order it, a top mount exhaust from a gas line. Oddly, they required that I pay before they came, so I paid my portion versus what AHS paid. They came out, installed the unit and it worked. They did a moderately decent job. On the other hand, my home is brick and they had to reshape an area that went from inside to outside. They could have done a much better job on the inside and how they brought it outside, but it did not change the quality of the resulting use and it was aesthetic.
But in general, AHS has been a difficult company to work with. Years ago, our air conditioner broke. We live in the South and it was hot. It took three and a half months to get my air-conditioner. They said it was not really broken. I paid somebody in my own pocket to come out to test it and they said it was broken. Then, I had the guys come back out and they said it was really broken, but they were too busy to do the work, so they went back to AHS. They then assigned it to a different third-party company. So, I had somebody to come out a fourth time and assess it. They also assessed that it was not really broken. Their definition of broken was, in their perspective, if it would launch when fired on its own and there was some piece of equipment that would help it start. If it was a car, they had to replace a spark plug. They said that they were not authorized to do it on the model that I had because it was too old. To me, the unit was broken.
So, I fought that battle for six weeks with AHS. I had a direct number to call somebody who was extremely disrespectful. No appreciation of me as a customer and his basic answer was they would give me a $1,700 check to do the work myself since I didn't like what they were doing. I told them that the reason I have them was that I couldn't find the people to do the work. Even though 25% of the time their people were great, the 75% were crap, but that was better than nobody. It was a very, very difficult process. After that, I didn’t renew on my next renewal cycle because I was considering going to a different service but eventually, I went back to them.
Also, I also had a leaky faucet. The company that fixed the hot water tank came out and fixed the faucet. The woman who scheduled it was just a flat-out unhappy person. She would call, leave me a voicemail but she spoke so fast. I had to slow down the line and look at the history of the call. I called them back and she'd ask if the call was related to a warranty service. She put me on hold, came back and she asked who I was holding for. I told her I was returning a call and she asked if the call was for the warranty service. She then said that they were too busy to handle service calls, they would call back the next day and hang up. She didn't ask my phone number and who I was.
The air conditioning people were a joke. It was months of no air conditioning. I would call and nobody would answer. The voicemail would say that if the call was about a home warranty, they are too busy to take any claims and I needed to call back AHS and tell them they were not taking new claims. That was the reason why I had a private, direct service situation.
They were offering me to find somebody, but I pay them so I don’t have to do it. I make one claim and I pay one fee. I had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket because they said that the air conditioner was broken but the compressor was not. I’m not allowed by North Carolina law to put an AR14 rated air conditioner. They said that they would give me the worst version because mine was older. The installation would not be done unless I paid $1,400 on top of it. Surely, it was the new adds to the contract, but if the air conditioning comes in two parts and one part is broken, they will have to replace it. The other part couldn't fit and they said that it was not their problem, but that was my contract, not theirs.
There was also a time when my microwave went out. It was a joint microwave and oven. The person I talked to put the request in for AHS and they approved it, but it took forever to get one that would fit. When they finally came to install it, the cabinet wasn’t big enough and they don’t do cabinet changes so they left. I had to get somebody else to adjust the cabinet, and then get them to come back and do the installation. AHS paid for all the cabinet extension and the guys did a fine enough job with the installation.
I’ve been in this house for 11 years. We came to the house for the first year free and I renewed it every year since. But three out of four times when somebody came to my house, they were either hard to get a hold of, delayed or sometimes, rude. AHS should screen and randomly call their subcontractors, and their clients, too, to see how they are treating their customers.

I’ve used AHS for a couple of times and every time, it’s been a good experience. They fixed my refrigerator a couple of times and the third time, they replaced it, so I was happy with that. When my garbage disposal went out, I called it in. I didn’t know my number so they found it for me. Everything was good. The repairman was on time. I’m an on-time kind of nut, and when you tell me you’re going to be here at a certain time, I expect it. Everybody’s not like that, but he was. I’ve told my sister about AHS and my son just bought a house and I told him he should get it. I’m trying to talk to my mom into getting it, but she’s old school. AHS is good at their work and if it’s in the policy, they will fix it. If they can’t, they will replace it. They don’t make up excuses and whine about it, they go right ahead and do it which I really appreciate. And it doesn’t take them all day if you call them, either the next two days, they’re there.

A few weeks ago, it was really cold and there were a few minor issues with the AC and heating unit shutting down. We made a claim online with American Home Shield. Their website was easy to navigate and as soon as I made the claim, I was on the phone with a representative within that hour. The representative was very pleasant and very helpful with any issues I had on the website. She also gave me plenty of information about the company that was coming out to do the service on the heating and AC unit.
The technician came out a couple of days after the claim was made. We met on two different occasions and he was very helpful. He explained everything step by step on the issues that I was having. And as he was fixing the issues, he was very informative of prior experiences with the same heating and AC units that he has worked on. He was able to solve my issue in less than an hour. The heating unit is working as if it is brand new. AHS is very welcoming and I've had a good experience so far. And if anyone would ask me who I would recommend for the home warranties, my first choice would be American Home Shield.

We had a leaking pipe in our rental property in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The floor had softened as well in the bathroom as the leak had been there for a little while. I was recommended to use American Home Shield from a friend who used and was satisfied with their service. So we contacted American Home Shield through the app as I was in Ireland at that time. It’s a wonderful system. It was extremely user-friendly and easy to put a claim in online. AHS got the issue rectified instantly. They were talking to the insurance company who said if it was to be replaced, it would be because of the water damage.
I spoke to one of the contractors for the DC home and he was very straightforward and honest. He told me that I needed something to bring the code. Then AHS called and went through it with me and told me exactly how much it would be. I didn’t need to meet with the contractor because it was taken care of by AHS. As a landlord, it definitely saved a lot of work. They were very excellent, professional and effective. If I had a question for their contractor, AHS would call the contractor and would clear it up for me straight away and I’m very happy with that.
AHS has a very good reputation. The simplicity of it is what sells them. They cover everything that nobody else would and it’s all under one policy. It’s a very good value for money. We could choose what we needed as it's not just lumped into one fixed package. It’s like having a management company for my house. If I’m away from home, I don’t need to worry if something happens. They could come in and get the job done that's up to standard by insured professionals. I will definitely recommend this company. Thank you AHS for looking after us.

I filed two claims with AHS, which I did through their website. The first one was for a water heater. It was leaking and the plumbers could not fix it so it had to be replaced. The second one was for a border. One of the zones did not light up and there was something wrong with the electronic current. The contractors were very nice people. So far, everything has been good. After four months of experience, I'm glad that I went with AHS. Dealing with them is as easy as 1, 2, 3. I make one call and the thing gets repaired.

My dryer went out, and the contractor that American Home Shield brought in was excellent and very professional. He did a really good job, and when he was done, he cleaned up his area. He used my vacuum cleaner and took away all the old stuff. My dryer is running perfect now. However, the contractor didn't charge me the $125 and said that they would collect it, but I don't know if that's a benefit. I need to figure out what I can do to get the service fee down because it's too high.
Additionally, the last couple of times I submitted a claim, I had to do online because when I called American Home Shield, I was on hold for two hours. I sat the phone down, started doing stuff and forgot I was on the phone. Then a text message came through saying I was number one in line or that my call would be answered in five minutes, but five minutes would go into an hour, and then into two hours, and I just hang up. I had a question when my dryer went out, and the contractor came back and was very good. Then the next week, my washer went out and I asked if they could get the same person to come out. Within a week, they had me with a whole different person that was not as good as the other guy.
I would recommend a warranty, but I'd tell others to do their research on the pricing to make sure that they're getting the most for their money. There have been times where I've gotten the service that I needed. But when the techs did my air conditioning, I could've gotten better service. Some companies are good, while some aren't that good. Other than the phone customer service, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

When I bought the home, I didn't realize there was water running down my wall in the kitchen and we might have missed it when we did the walkthrough before we signed the document. I noticed it when I came back later that evening. There was a line on the interior that was broken which caused the leak to cause damage to my kitchen ceiling and my wall. I called American Home Shield and I must have called a couple of times but I wasn't able to get through. At one point, I had to wait on hold for over two hours.
When I got through, I spoke to a representative and she listened to what I was saying and took the information. She assessed the problem that I had and they referred some company to me in the area. They said they would eventually contact me but they didn’t. I had to contact them and this was during the Christmas holiday. And for quite some time during the Christmas holiday, I couldn't even turn the water on. If I did, there would be more water running down my wall and possibly more damage. I spoke to a supervisor and he apologized. Finally, this guy comes out and cuts holes in my upstairs bedroom, in the ceiling, and in the kitchen wall. Then, I had to wait another two or three weeks after he did that and repaired the leak for somebody else to come out. I had to call the people they recommended after a long wait.
It has been repaired now although it took several weeks to get it repaired and I'm not pleased with that. As a matter of fact, the first guy that came out had this very bad attitude. He told me that I had to pay so many hundred dollars if my pressure wasn't 70 PSI and it would not be covered under warranty. And if he repaired it and found out that my PSI was over this average, he would cut the pipe again. I've never heard of anything like that so I was taken aback and even called my agent.
Then, the second person that came out and did the repair work wanted to charge me additional money. And he did because he said based on the type of warranty that I had, they don't repair it to a rough finish. So, if it's a hole in the wall that needs to be repainted, they don't do that. He said that I could speak to him but it was actually somebody that the contractors talk to. He didn't want to talk to me at all. It was almost like these people are running some racket and it's terrible. So, I had to pay this guy $70 to paint it and do the finish work.
It's a hassle with them sending somebody out and then once this person comes out, you got to pay them a $70 to $80 charge before they send somebody out. And if there's any work that needs to be done, you got to pay for that. I don't understand what this warranty covers and they tried to explain it to me but I’m paying just like I would if I didn't have a warranty. These people are ripping folks off and it's one of the worst companies I've seen. I've had a very bad experience with American Home Shield and I would not recommend them to anybody that I know or my family. This is not a company to do business with at all.
Good morning, Tyrone. I apologize that you had such an ordeal with your work order and you just moved into your new home. We've had good experiences with American Home Shield. When submitting a claim online, it's very easy. Once they get your number and it identifies who you are, it's pretty much a click menu and I submit. I can pay forward at that point as well. Folks then come out, make the fix and then get along to whatever their schedule dictates from there. I've never had any disappointment with AHS and they've come through every time too. It's very convenient to know that if something goes wrong, I can just go to that one spot and AHS can find somebody to come fix the issue as opposed to doing the research and asking people or trying to get on a schedule that may be full already. It's understandable that things may go wrong at times when there's extreme weather condition. The elderly or the needy who has an air conditioner problem would go first. But otherwise, the response has been mostly very prompt.
We've had them out two times as of late and the people that they contracted with have always fixed the problems that we had. The bearing went out in the motor for the pool right before it was about to freeze for a week where I live and somebody came out within a day and did the fix. They saved the pipes and the pool that could have frozen and gone bad from that point forward. The pool is working like a champ.

My garage door opener was not receiving the signal from my transmitter. Before I called Home Shield I kind of worked with it for a little bit because I had to come inside the house and hit the button to open it. But after a while the garage door didn't work so that's when I called Home Shield. They directed me to a website to submit the claim and it was simple.
We scheduled it the following day and then we scheduled the time. The contractors were super friendly and nice. They had a van full of parts but my part wasn’t in the van. They ran out of it. So they had to reschedule after they got the part ordered. I was happy with the provider but I wish it would have been fixed that day. But when it was finally fixed it was one board. They were in and out in probably five minutes.
I'm in the mortgage business and when a homeowner is purchasing property I always tell them my experience. "It's always good to get a warranty in the house. You'll never know what appliances are going to break soon." I also tell them about the plan that I'm in which is $50 a month and there's a $100 copay. And I give them the math on top of that. I say, "Let's say the refrigerator breaks on you. If you're paying $50 a month, that's $600 for the year, even if you pay that for three years and it's just the refrigerator. Get a warranty." And I recommend American Home Shield all the time.

I have been with American Home Shield for 10 years and while it's a little pricey, it's a convenient service to have. My wife can call them and things can get taken care of when I'm not available. Most recently, my refrigerator's freezer had quit and it had something to do with the electronic syncing devices. I was out of the country at that time and it was my wife who called it in. The technician came in and diagnosed the problem properly. Then he ordered the parts, came back and fixed it. And it worked ever since. However, there was also a button that’s about to quit working and we identified it. But the technician wouldn’t do it without a second call. He wouldn’t expand the service based on the request and only did what he was asked to do. It seems like it would save us money but that’s okay.
But I have issues with their coverage policies and communication. The big issue I've had within their fine print is it needs to be read by everybody that buys because it's very obvious if you read the fine print that some of the things aren’t as clear when you sign up as to what's covered and what's not covered. You have to be a semi-contract person to see and read through all the fine prints. I've had 10 years to do it with them so there are areas I know I'm going to be disappointed and they are around items that they don’t cover and what they do when they cover it.

When I had a drain stoppage, I called American Home Shield to make a claim. The contractor came, diagnosed the problem, said it was a mainline issue and that it wasn’t something that the home warranty would cover. I asked the contractor if I should call American Home Shield and he said that they are going to tell me the same thing so I was frustrated. I didn't even call American Home Shield back. But the technician was great. He was professional, quick to respond and knew what he was talking about. He diagnosed and fixed the problem but I ended up having to pay the contractor directly and pay the $100 service call fee to American Home Shield for a problem that ended up not being covered.
Since the repair, there has been another issue. It stopped up again two weeks later. I called the same contractor and they said that I need to call American Home Shield first. Knowing that they weren't going to cover it, I went ahead and called my own contractor, who ended up charging me about one-third of the cost to fix it one more time. As a warranty purchaser, it would be helpful to understand what to do in the event that the repair turns out not to be covered because I ended up paying four times of what I might have paid on my own because the repair wasn't covered. They should be clear about that and also have it somewhere on their website.
Hello, John. I apologize that you ended up paying several times to have an issue resolved. AHS would definitely need to know what the diagnosis was prior to advising if the issue was covered or not. The technicians know our policies but they should not advise you of coverage prior to you speaking with AHS. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to further discuss.

Hours later, I got a call that said who was coming out and that they'd call me and schedule a time, and they did. It was very smooth. They gave a four-hour window and the tech showed up within the first 15 minutes, and it worked out well. He came inside and I told him what was going on. I had an issue with the heater not working. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and it had an automated submission but I ended up calling them back. It took us a couple of tries to find a company that would come out because I have a condo and not a house. The contractor had to be a specific company that would come and work on heaters at condos. There was a company that was scheduled but then they cancelled because they don't service condos. But within a couple of days, AHS was able to find a company that would. The AHS representatives that I spoke with were up to date on what was happening. I was happy with the process. Once they found the company, the issue was resolved quickly. They just tripped the breaker and it stopped working. They had what they needed with them and fixed it. The heater has been working great.
It was a great experience and I would recommend AHS. I like that there’s a website where it tells you if they have assigned a company to come out with the phone number and what to expect within the time frame they’d contact. The temperature of our water heater went down on a Thursday and we were not getting any running water. So, I went to AHS website and scheduled a service. Home Depot was assigned. The contractor told me there was no heater problem and they’ll come back in ten days. It was a challenge as I had to fight with them to come over sooner. They gave me a 2-5 window and they showed up right on time at 3. He checked out the temperature and told us the heater didn’t need any troubleshooting. Even the other technician who came in acknowledged that. He raised the temperature and we had it on hot and according to the AO Smith water heater setting, ABCR, very hot. He switched the code to B as increasing the temperature was normal for a five-year-old heater. I told him to go for it and that was all he did. But within 15 hours, the water heater shuts off and the whole valve was broken.
It happened on a Saturday and they were closed on Sunday. I left a message on Sunday but nobody called me Monday. So, I called them again twice and they finally picked up the phone. After arguing with them, they sent the person within a 2-6 window then the guy showed up at 5:30. He came and since it was winter, the cold water increased the temperature of the top and the water started leaking also in the garage. The cold intensified and tightened it. The technician said we need to replace the part. He called AO Smith because the water heater was under warranty. AO Smith looked up the light based on the error code and it was number four. And number four reason for the valve to go bad was due to high temperature. The real reason for the problem was there were sediments in the water heater that should have been removed. The thermostat couldn’t handle it so the whole thing blew up.
The technician should have flushed the sediments out and had the thermostat setting to the same thing. He even told me since it is under warranty, they can get the part but my appointment will be on Thursday or Friday. I told them we needed our water heater and they could buy the part then get the refund from AO Smith. But I went to the store and bought the part myself. The guy came Tuesday at 6-ish when the window should have been 2-5. He flushed the whole system that took time then installed the new valve of the unit I got. It cost about $170. There was a light blinking that the thermostat center is not working and something was wrong. And the technical support people for AO Smith were gone so he couldn't figure out what was wrong. He said that he’ll call AO Smith the next morning, Wednesday and he’ll call me too. He texted that AO Smith said the part I got was bad and we needed a new one.
So, I asked if the contractor will be getting the part and they can go to the refund process. AO Smith said that’s what they’ll do. They gave me a voucher again. I called Mariana a few times but no calls. Then finally, I got a call at noon yesterday that the technician will be out between 2 and 5. The guy shows up again at 5:40 and I was taking time off. But before that, I texted him asking if he got the part. He said, "No, you're going to get the part." Then I said, "The first text you said that you were going to get the part." It was 4:10 already and the shop closes at 5. So, I went ahead and bought a second one for I need the water heater fixed. I went all the way to the store and bought the part. The technician showed up at 5:30 and told me that he’ll start removing it and flush the water heater again. He was wasting water but it had to be done. So, once he opened the front part of the controller and there was something loose.
The guy did not put the temperature center correctly on Tuesday. So, the technician said it wasn’t tight and the part just popped out. It was not easy to take it out and he plugged it in. The water heater started working. The first part was good and it was a human error. He was still fixing the thing until 7-ish. Finally, the water heater came back and it was running yesterday at 5:00. I called AHS to explain the whole thing. The first customer service rep understood everything and asked me to hold so she can get the service customer support. The lady came back saying that I wanted a refund from them and that they don’t give any. I just needed my water heater fixed but I didn’t call for a refund. I told them what happened about the part issues and that the technician was supposed to buy the second part.
Instead of getting engaged, she placed me hold which I eventually hanged up on them for I needed to buy the part. She didn’t listen to me because she told me I was calling for a refund. Apart from that, I also had a shower leak previously and the same agent came in late. The appointment was 9 to 12, Saturday and he showed up at 3:00. He said that the cartridge was bad. We didn’t have any water in the house because our shower was continuously leaking and the handle broke. He left me to buy the part and came back at 6:30. The truck that he had was empty and when he came back, his truck was full. He went shopping and kept me waiting. Then, all our flushes were not working correctly.
Same guys came and just used a screwdriver and we still had the problem. He came back and said that we needed to change the flapper. He got the wrong flapper and cut it with his scissors and installed it. But the water was not stopping and the tank is continuously filling up. I called a tech guy and when he came, I told him that he needs to come with the part and replace it. Then, he showed up with a $10 part because I told him I couldn't buy that too. The shower cartridge was finally fixed right. It was normal for AHS and the contractors they sent didn’t do anything, just the basic stuff and see if that solved all the problem. It looks like an AHS problem guidance to the contractors. Otherwise, they will spend the right stuff and get it fixed. I’m angry with them. My experience with them was all about frustration. I gave up on AHS because they were useless which I explained to them twice. I'm going to start looking for a new company.
Hello, Ghulam. Thank you for taking time out of your day to advise us of your service experience. I apologize that it seemed as if AHS did not care to listen to your concerns and better assist you with completion. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

When we were first getting the American Home Shield account set up, I had a couple of issues. It was almost like my account information didn't exist yet and I needed to reach out to support to ask for help. It got resolved at some point and after I finished getting set up, everything has been great since. I most recently filed two claims at the same time. One was for the furnace and one was for the microwave. The microwave turned off and didn't turn back on and we weren't sure why because the outlet was working fine. But it has been working fine since the repair. And the furnace, we were told that there was something wrong with it by someone else who does furnace stuff, but the guy that came out actually said that we were good.
Submitting the claims online was easy and we got responses within two working days. Both contractors that American Home Shield sent were fantastic. They were both very personable, explained what was going on, and answer any additional questions that I had while I was there. I saved all their information because I was told that if I call to submit a claim next time, I can request for the same company to come back out.

I'm satisfied with what American Home Shield does but there are certain things which are hidden and some things which cause a lot of dissatisfaction. For example, last time I had a leak, the guy came and looked into it. He said the leak was because I have a lot of pressure off of water from the city government. He also said that he couldn't fix it and even American Home Shield will not pay for it until I regulate the pressure. There were no said rules or predefined things which are very clear for any consumer to understand. Since they were not going to fix it, I had to hire somebody outside and get that pressure regulated first.
Then I called city government. They understood everything but said that pressure is good and they didn't see it as an issue. Then, American Home Shield closed the ticket and said that if the leaks happen in the future, they will not fix until I change the pressure. But with the city government saying it’s not an issue, I don't know who to go. At least the city government assured me and gave it to me in writing.
The most frustrating part about American Home Shield is that anytime I want to get in a call with them, there is absolutely no way I can get in touch with the agent. I have to wait at least five to ten minutes, sometimes 15, 20 minutes for the call to get connected. Aside from connecting, sometimes explaining things is also a challenge, like with this issue that took a while. But the reps I’ve spoken with are nice, helpful and very specific. Normally, they take care of all the issues and they really understand what my problem is. Overall, I'm very satisfied. Most of my experiences are awesome. I've already recommended all my friends and colleagues to go with American Home Shield.

Our air conditioner went out. We called American Home Shield and the rep explained what we were going to do. We told her what the issue was then we put the claim in, paid our deductible and she gave us the contact information of the air conditioner company. Then the contractor called and gave us a timeframe. It was supposed to be a 24-hour turn around time, but it was cold that time and my mom was 88, so I asked them to send someone out sooner than the 24-hour standard, and they did.
The service from the tech was excellent. He called us before he was due to come out and advised us of every move. Once he got here, he went out and checked the air conditioner. He came back and told us that he found the issue and he had to get a part. He said he'd be back at a certain time, and he did. Then he installed it and everything has been running properly after the repair. Plus, he gave us his direct contact number in case we had an issue. We’d recommend American Home Shield to anyone. Their rates are great and they are the perfect company to go through if you have an older home and in case something’s broken, you don't want all the expenses to come out of your pocket.

I have three appliances that I have some problems with and American Home Shield replaced one of them, a washer. After I called they sent me Ramb’s and they helped me with the appliances. It took two weeks after they came to tell me that they have to replace it. But for the other appliances they’ve been fixing since October they still didn’t have the parts on time. I had to wait months until they got the part for my refrigerator.
I’ve been calling different times when they told me they didn’t have the parts until now. So next Tuesday they’re supposed to fix that as well as my microwave and the dryer. It was just a light that wasn’t working in the microwave but the dryer has some parts missing and they told me they have to have all the parts to come and fix it right. The first time when they send the parts is because for some reason the first contractor from Home Shield didn’t have the parts. So they find out those parts are never going to come until they get us somebody else.
I called in and submitted the claim but I had to call after that a lot of times and they always have the same reason -- they don’t have the parts. The last rep that I interacted with was very helpful. But before her it was, “We don’t have the parts,” and the last one tried to do different things and tried to help me. The contractors are very nice people but they have the hindsight too. They couldn’t fix anything if they don’t have the parts so they couldn’t come. They couldn’t do anything for me until they have the parts and it took a long time. It’s been months. You’ll have to wait months to fix the problem. Good thing the refrigerator’s freezing my food and not altogether not working because then I’m going to have a trouble. But I have to turn it on and turn it off to make sure. I cannot put salads or fruits or vegetables in my fridge. Overall I won’t say that they're bad because at least they replaced the washer but with the situation with the refrigerator it was crazy.

I filed a plumbing claim with American Home Shield, and the contractor came out and they said I didn’t answer the door. However, I was home and I never heard them, so they left. I was here with a friend and had four babies that day. It was loud in my house, so if the contractor knocked on my door at all, I would’ve heard him. If I didn’t hear him, then my dogs go ballistic. I called AHS on that day to see when they were coming because the issue has been for a few days. They told me what happened and that they were going to charge me $100 since they came out and there was no answer.
I called the home office and spoke to someone who said that I can have the contractors come back out and it won’t cost me another $100. Supposedly, that’s on a recording since the person I talked to that day said everything was recorded. I had them look for that recording when I called and talked to them again because they billed me. The first time, they automatically took it out of my account. The second time, they tried to take it out of my account, but they evidently can’t take it out twice without notifying me. So, I still have $100 showing up every month that I owe. I told them what their rep said to me the last time I called and they didn’t believe me. I called and somebody was supposed to pull the recording and check it out but I never heard anything from anybody and that has been three months. Somebody needs to tell them to stop billing me since they already took it out.
Nevertheless, the technician was very pleasant. I recognized his name that it was the same person. I treated him with respect and he was very professional. It’s all working now. Overall, everything has been good except for that issue. I’ve only had people come out about four times though in these years. Right now, I have a broken window and have reported it. It’s a double pane and it's broken only through the first pane, so it’s not inconveniencing me. However, I don’t want to deal with AHS until this other thing is settled.

I had a leak somewhere underneath the flooring between the living room and the guest bedroom in our house. So, I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. I told them that I needed a plumber that was capable of locating a leak. The plumber they sent was a good plumber but he did not have the capability of locating a leak in a slab built house where all the water lines are underneath the concrete. All he did was guess that it was the toilet leaking. I asked him what was he basing his guess on and he told me that if anything in there was leaking, they didn't see any evidence of any of the valves leaking, so it's got to be the commode. He pulled the toilet and from that point to the time he left, all he did was downgrade the plumber who did the work prior to him getting it and just talked about how sloppy the work was.
All that time, I saw no evidence of water leaking from around the base of the toilet. But he went ahead and put a new fitting on the bottom, plugged it in and put a new sealant rerouting it. We didn’t use that rest room that much but he still told us to stay off the toilet for at least 24 hours and let the grout set up. We did but the water kept coming in to the rooms.
I submitted another claim but I knew they will send the same plumber back. I told him that he would not be allowed on my property. If he couldn’t fix the problem then there was no point in AHS sending him again. If they don't have a menu of contractors that they could choose from then they're not a very good company. I called my insurance company and I had told them what the situation was. They sent an adjuster out here and when I asked what I needed to do next, he told me to wait until we hear back from the insurance company. But I couldn't wait any longer because the house was falling apart. The pipes were almost in two pieces, my water bill tripled and my leg heated too because it was coming off the hot water heater.
So, I called a plumbing company that advertised that they have the capability of finding leaks. The plumber came in, got his equipment out and found the main waterline coming in under the living room. It took him about 30 minutes to find where the leak was. He opened up a hole in the sheet rock. It basically had turn to look scaling an old spot. And it turned out to be the hot water line going to the bath tub. It was at a clamp that they had run the pipe through. It moved back and forth and then through it went the hole in. Turned out that latest house was plumbed. Everywhere we looked, there were clamps on the pipe. He told me that once they start leaking, chances are we’d just keep having leaks everywhere. So I paid to have the house re-plumbed completely. It was over $10,000 but my insurance company’s limit on plumbing leaks was $5,000 so I had to pay the other $5,000.
I sent in the $470 that the plumber charged me to find the leak and repair it to an email address that we got customer service in AHS. I would want them to give me back the money that I had to pay for the plumber that actually found and fixed the leak before it completely destroyed my house. But I hadn't heard a word back at all. That's been at least three months ago. There's a very good possibility I will be changing home warranty company shortly.
Hi, Stephen. I am so sorry to hear that you had such an issue with your plumbing. I will be more than happy to help you with your reimbursement request. Please look for my direct email to come to you shortly.

It's a very long and tedious process when submitting a claim with American Home Shield. There’s a lot of repetition for no purpose at all. It's like going through seven different steps to make sure that you get to speak to somebody. It’s fine to have everything automated and send you to the website but some of us older people have neither the time nor the ability to go through this process. We must speak to somebody with real life. The wait is extremely long. I have to wait two hours to be told that our business is very important to them but there was a hang-up. Most of the time, this happens.
The contractors act the way they do because they get minimal reimbursement from American Home Shield. But that should not be the case. If they do not want to do it, they should not be part of the group. I have had instances where I was supposed to be called in 24 hours later, which was understandable. But then, I had to call two to three times after the 24-hour period to see what was what, and then I left a message but they never got back to me. Some lady answering has no idea what the problem is even if I tell her it is American Home Shield. And then the answer is, "Let me call you back." I would rather wait for them but they know what they're doing.
When we called the order in, there were two stoppages in the same apartment. We told American Home Shield one thing and whoever was on the other side wrote a different thing. The contractor from All Clear showed up but said it was not in the order. Now Patriot Mechanical is supposedly coming today. I called in the morning, left a message to confirm with the company and have not gotten any response yet whether they got the message or not. I understand that there are a lot of things to do, but when the contractor is sent for a certain period of time, we would like to get service that we're paying for. There has to be better communication.

Having a home warranty is very valuable to one’s home as things can break. American Home Shield did the door locks re-key and the dryer. Their claims representative was professional when I called to file the claim. Both of the contractors sent were very good. He fixed the dryer and the lady re-keyed the locks. It took them an hour and a half to do it. Everything went fine and it was an excellent experience.

The contractor sent by AHS knew his job. I have a Trane heater and he knew everything about it. So, he automatically knew what was wrong. He was a very nice person and very clean. I'm very happy with the service and the heater works perfectly since the repair. Also, when I submitted the claim, everything went smoothly. It was very nice and comforting. I submitted it over the phone and the representative was very helpful. One should get AHS no matter what. I already referred several people.

Recently, I submitted a claim for a heater. The contractor they sent was very professional, and since the repair, the heater has been working fine. Other than that, we had a terrible problem with our refrigerator and I felt that American Home Shield wasn't acting on our behalf. It came to a point that we're ready to leave them because seven weeks without a refrigerator is unacceptable. That was very bad.

I had a problem with my dishwasher and I called AHS to submit the claim. I talked to three different people and they were all responsive. I finally got to a supervisor the last time because I had waited in between times and it was past the time, and the supervisor had to approve waiving another fee. There were three different service calls that were made and each one fit something different so, the dishwasher wouldn’t work, it was cut off in mid cycle and I had to go downstairs.
Finally, a repair person said it was the dishwasher, one said it was the breaker, and another said that it was just a short so, it kind of dragged it out a little bit. But, it turned to be a breaker and by replacing the breaker and the breaker box remedied the issue. It shouldn’t have taken that many trips by that many people to get it fixed. Other than that, I’m still a believer in American Home Shield. They’re convenient, they’ll get things fixed, but sometimes, it's just quite a process. I will be using their online claim submission because I waited for at least an hour when I called them.

My air conditioner needed some maintenance replacement. I had it serviced last July and they told me it needed two items that were covered by my insurance. He did not write down the name where I can read it so I never got around to calling my insurance. Then in January, they came in for the second service, this time, with the heater. I asked him to tell me what he had written there and they told me. Then I had American Home Shield come out and replace whatever it was that needed to be replaced. I usually submit my claims online because I just cannot stand voicemail and I avoid it whenever I can. If there’s an online option, I go for the online. If the organization offers to contact with people and you go to a lot of prompts, I'm not really interested in going that route. The contractors AHS send are sometimes good but sometimes, they’re not. The one they sent recently was quite good.
Sometimes, the contractors are very much in a hurry. They don’t work for me and most of them make that very clear in their attitude. The money is between me and AHS but as far as the assignment, and the work, and who they report to, they’re reporting to me. That was made very clear early on in the contract. After the repair, it was reported that there are some components in the air conditioner that periodically get lower. They have to be replaced and there’s one product that you only pay $10 a pound for.
Also, AHS doesn’t really have anything in their system designed to handle emergency work. I had a water faucet that actually broke outside and the only way to address it was to completely turn off my water system, and this was on a Sunday morning. I was able to locate emergency service to come out and do it. But that’s not something that AHS covers so I paid $350 out of my pocket for that service. In the case of the last contractor they sent, it took five days to get service for the issue. Normally, in the past, the service people have responded in the next day.
I didn’t renew with AHS because of the combination of the issues I've mentioned plus the actual expense. The service costs over $700 a year. February the 1st would have been the renewal date. I notified them in December that I wouldn’t be renewing. First, they said that it had to be done by a phone conversation but no one ever called me. Later on, they sent me an email acknowledging that I had provided a cancellation notice. They did not make a charge against my bank account on February 1st, so I assume that the cancellation has occurred.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We had an issue with the circuit board upstairs and the thermostat. The thermostat would not work properly because it's communicating with the upstairs unit. And it would stay lit up all the time and would blink a red light. I didn't know if it was affecting the way the furnace was working and that was what the issue was with the furnace. The hold time on the phone wasn’t long when I submitted the claim but I’ve heard that it was very difficult to set up an appointment sometimes. The contractor sent, Barnett Air Conditioning, was amazing. Then, the service guy, Scott, came a little more than a week. He diagnosed it right away and ordered the part. He was here when he said he would be. He took care of it very quickly. And if I have any other AC problems, I'm going to request him through AHS because he did a nice, professional job. He was very good at what he does and I’d stay with him.
Both units were repaired and everything is working fine. I’ve been with AHS for three months and I’m also glad that we went with them. And if this was an example of what I'm going to have when I have a problem, I'll be very satisfied then too. I have related the experience that I had and told my friends that it was worthwhile.

I'm not very technical so I have American Home Shield. My brand new $8,000 furnace didn’t come on and we were freezing to death. This happened on the coldest night of the year. It was traced back to the breaker box thing and I’m lucky the pipes didn’t burst. I always call my claims in. I know I can do it online but I’ve heard that you get a more instant response when you call. I called since this was pretty much of an emergency situation. There was also a garbage disposal issue. The air-conditioning was a total disaster because a technician kept coming out and just refilling the coolant. He did not bother to notice that there was a leak and did not bother to tell me that I was throwing my money away. I had to have them come every couple of months and track these little problems because the big problem is the 20-year-old system and it needed to be replaced. But I could have saved a lot.
The contractors AHS sent has been amazing, except for one. The plumbing guys and the electrical guys were amazing. The electrical guys were so knowledgeable and walked me through everything I needed to know. They are always prompt and they put booties on their shoes when they come in the door so they don’t get my floor dirty. Since the repair, everything’s working fine like it should. If you buy a house and you don’t know anything about the house, having AHS is a no-brainer because you never know what disaster might happen. That was a huge confidence booster for me knowing that, even though I had to pay out of the pocket, at least I had the ability to make a phone call and find out what was wrong.

My heater stopped working, I went online and got information, then I ended up calling American Home Shield. The service was quick. The contractor was quiet but that was fine. I only wished he was more communicative. It was a little weird having somebody come into your home and not say anything. Also, it was odd that I didn’t sign anything afterward. When he left, my pilot light was still blinking even though it was working at the time. I was concerned it might be something else so I had to go back and do the paperwork through my emails to find out how to get in contact with them.
I wish I had something there to know that the work was complete or know what to do if there was an issue. Eventually, I was able to call the contractor and let him know. He was more than happy to come back out if needed but I ended up taking care of it. I’ve been with AHS for a long time and I haven’t had any major problems. I’m a realtor and I recommend the service to some of my clients.

The faucet upstairs wouldn’t shut off and the hot water kept running on it. We called American Home Shield to fix it. The contractors came out and said they changed the washers. And then, the faucet started leaking again. So, we called AHS back but we had to wait for two hours on hold and it was like the longest wait. They came out again and ended up changing out the whole faucet. We called because it was the same issue and we shouldn't have had to pay for it twice. But we ended up having to pay for it again. And then there was a leak downstairs from one of the faucets underneath the shut-off valve. It happened right when they were done replacing the faucets and we tried to explain this to AHS. It’s not fixed yet and we have another person coming out.
We've also had claims for the garbage disposal and some electrical issues before. The majority of their contractors did a good job, although every once in a while, we get one that's not so great. There were just a few times that we weren't really happy with their work. But I'm happy to have AHS and I tell people about them. It’s nice to have that extra insurance because it’s really a lifesaver when you have appliances go out and when you do have leaks and issues with your faucets.

Our dishwasher wasn’t going through the cycle fully and the wands weren’t spinning, spraying, rinsing, and it wasn’t draining. I live about 30 miles outside of the nearest city and our city has only about 100,000 people. You would think it would be way more difficult to submit a claim and get somebody out here in a timely manner but it’s pretty simple. Also, I submit my claims online and it’s way better than calling in where I get stuck on hold forever. I don’t get anybody on the phone within 15 to 30 minutes. In the 10 years of my policy, I have loved the contractors that they’ve sent except two. One was way back when we first got the policy. That guy was creepy. There was a plumbing guy that I’ve warned American Home Shield as he was completely inappropriate and they took him right off the list.
I have multiple homes through American Home Shield. One time I had 3 but now I’m down to just two homes with them. I love this company and it has got to a point where when families move in to this small town and they look for a home warranty company, I usually shout off the rooftops how much I love American Home Shield. I’m very pro them. I love the customer service but one incident has put a bitter taste in my mouth.
Our policies renew in September of every year. In October, I tried to do a claim online for my water softener system because it started to go out. But I couldn’t get the automated system to understand what I’m asking. I got my policy and I don’t see my water softener on my policy anymore. When I renewed the policy, I scanned it quickly and saw all of the appliances. There’s one tiny line that if you have additional things added to your plan, it’ll say “Additional things covered”, and it would have said “Water softener”. I didn’t notice that the water softener wasn’t there and that was my fault.
Being a long-standing customer, they should have sent out something saying that they are no longer covering water softeners. I could have gone and found somebody that would have covered it. By the time I found out they didn’t cover it, it was too late. I’m out $750 dollars to have that thing repaired and it took the techs two different times to come out here to finally fix it, and that’s cheaper than the policy I pay for through American Home Shield.
My water softener broke down in October and it was fixed just this last Monday. I was livid. Who knows what damage it’s done to appliances and things like that in the house from not having the water softener because we live out in the country with all the mineral water. The AHS rep said that she’s sorry that the water softener is not covered. That doesn’t mean anything to me. There’s no part on a water softener that is less than $200. Also, the rep said that somebody from their retention department would call me but no one ever called me back since October.

I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue and it wasn't long before a plumber called and came out. He was really nice except that he wasn't the one that unclogged my plumbing. He said he had to dig the floor up and take the concrete, and then of course all of that had to be replaced. He said it would be $12,000 because the floor would have to be recovered. I called my homeowners' insurance and told them what was going on. The adjuster said that the quote from the initial plumber was too high, and within a couple hours, he had his plumbers here and they unplugged my plumbing. The initial contractor didn't snake far enough, and if he had gone a little bit further like the other guys did, he might have broken through.
This was the first time that I'd ever had a problem with American Home Shield. But whenever they've come out, I've been satisfied. Their contractors clean up their mess and everything seems to be okay. It doesn't take them long to get out there and I just pay their deductible. He also said that there were black marks up and down the wall and that the problem should've been caught by an inspector. Still, he could have been more thorough. He was a bit difficult to understand from a non-electrician standpoint. Instead of simply moving forward and saying that everything has been fixed, he could have come up with a solution to tell us why the problem would have been caught and what was done to resolve it.
I understand your concerns with the electrician dispatched to diagnose the wire that was not covered. I would be glad to speak with you about the experience.

I've been with AHS for 10 years now because there is value in their service. Some years I didn't have a claim, while other years, I had two which pays for itself. I had a repair that was not done and had to be redone but that was more of parts issue than a service issue. The most recent claim I had was for my AC's heat pump. Doing it online was easy. Their site works pretty well wherein I could get in and out quickly. And although I had to wait for them to get back to me, it was fairly rapid and the service has been good.
I like using local OEMs but I swapped those guys for the contractor who came out and did my AC because of the service he did. Since the service, the AC has been working fine. The only issue I have with AHS is that the repairs are not quick because of the process one has to go through. I have to make the service call and then the selected vendor would get back with me within a day or two. When they find out what’s wrong, they would go back to AHS to have the repair approved. And if they need to go buy parts, they would come back out and do the actual work. Even though that’s the cheapest way to get it done, if I'm sitting here in a 105-degree heat after the air conditioning going out, that could be a little aggravating. But that’s just the nature of the beast.

It's winter and my furnace went out. AHS is closed on the weekend, so I had to wait until Monday to call and get a technician to come out. The company that I was set up with only works from eight to four, which is the same exact hours that I am at work. I called them when I got off of work and they were not open. It was a disaster. And then, AHS set me up with a different company. They came out and said that my furnace wasn't covered since my chimney caused condensation, which caused the furnace to go out. I ended up having to pay out of my pocket to get it fixed the week of Christmas.
I'm in Illinois and there was a time where I was without heat for four days. AHS said that they would reimburse me for the heater that I had to purchase but I never got reimbursed for that. My electricity was $250 for the couple of days we had the heater. Also, I had to wait down the phone for an hour and a half. I had to put my phone on speaker since I had to talk to somebody. I had to figure out what was going on.
The purpose of me getting the whole warranty was in case something goes out and I thought it was a good idea. However, every time I would file a claim, it wasn't covered so having AHS was a waste of money for me. I've been with them not very long and I've already canceled their service. There was a lady at customer service who was very nice and a very good employee, but there was nothing she can do about the problem. I told her she needed to go find another job since the company wouldn't do anything. It's just the way the company is.
Hello, Shauna. I apologize that your furnace issue was not covered by our policy. Per our records, I do show that you were reimbursed for a space heater per our offer to you. The check mailed on 01-23-2018, you should have received that at this time. I will email you directly and if you have not received that check, you can let me know and I can have that re-issued.

The first time I submitted the heating claim with American Home Shield, I had a hard time getting through. I called the night when I noticed the temperatures had dropped in the house, and I told the representative that I needed someone to come out because the outside unit was already installed. That representative kept telling me there was nothing he could do, that he was going to send it over to a supervisor and that a supervisor would reach out to me. But no one ever reached out to me.
After I spoke to that rep that night, I didn't feel comfortable and I decided to try calling the back-end line, the one I called to make the payment when I got the unit. The young lady was very helpful and she expedited the claim immediately. I was able to get help within 24 hours the next day. So they have good customer service skills but the first rep needs a little retraining. He wasn’t really someone who had good people skills. But other than that, I give AHS an A plus.
The dispatcher came out and found out it was the thermostat that went up in the house. They replaced that and everything has been great. I had a good relationship with the contractors too. They were nice, helpful and funny. The same one came back out and he was really great. The two who came to install the unit were very nice guys as well. I was very pleased and happy to deal with them because they made me feel that they would get the problem taken care of. I'm happy and I'm going to renew my policy in February. I have also recommended American Home Shield to three friends. Even though you have to pay that $125 for them to come out and do the assessment, it’s worth it because they give constructive positive feedback.

I was having some difficulty a month ago about my electricity and American Home Shield came out to fix it. It went out on a weekend so I had to wait. I did send them an email to let them know that I needed help. They got right on it on Monday and the tech was here on Tuesday. I explained to him that my house is old and the wiring was old. I had sockets that would blow the bulb if I turn on the switch. He went over the sockets and made sure everything was right. The switch in the kitchen wasn't working right and so they put something in the electrical socket and put in a new fixture. I only had to pay $75 and he got everything restored. The gentleman was the most professional.
I've been with American Home Shield for a while and I love them. I left them and went somewhere else, but as soon as the year was over, I went straight back to American Home Shield. They come when I call them and they always return the call. Sometimes I file the claim online and they send a confirmation right over to the person that they're going to have to come to my home, so I know it's already in. I just call to make sure everything is done and they give me the number and name of the company that's coming. At that point, I converse with the contractor and they set up the date that they're coming. The people who come are professional and get the job done. Then American Home Shield checks back with me to make sure everything is okay. It has been amazing.
The techs repaired my dryer, washing machine, furnace, and the electricity. My furnace was a bit tricky for them but they got it working. It works better than it did when I got it brand new. I will keep American Home Shield forever. It has been a pleasure having them and knowing that my home is safe. It doesn't cost me an arm and a leg so I'm grateful I have them. Not only would I recommend them to a friend, I've recommended them to several people and they have gotten on board with American Home Shield. I love American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is a very reputable company. I’ve been with them for about nine years and I've always had great service from them. I filed a claim online for a water leak from the water pressure regulator valve that had raptured. Submitting the claim was very easy and their website was user-friendly. The contractors who came out were very professional, too. They identified the leak, explained all the options that I had, and fixed the problem. All was taken care of very quickly.

My Realtor mother had told me about American Home Shield when I was closing on my house and I’ve had them for about 14 years now. I had called in a plumbing deal. I put in some shut-off valves and thought I had a leaking toilet, where the ring was leaking, but that was not the case. They just tightened it up. But then, I had another call a couple of weeks ago, but I found out it was my irrigation system rather than plumbing and I ended up telling the plumbing company if I didn’t need them, I'll call the company in charge for irrigation system over, which I did. All my experience with the companies that work with American Home Shield has been good. A couple of the plumbing companies that they use are not that great, but usually, I use Budget, which is a great company.
I usually call my claims in because I've had more success, but it looks like they're getting more and more where I need to go online because when you call them in, you're not getting any person most of the time and it takes you forever to try to talk to a person. I had a call recently where I was calling on this plumbing deal and I was trying to tell them what was going on because I didn’t think they needed to put in a ticket at that time. But because I was dealing with the electronic person, I never got a live person, and so the thing went through. I got a call from the plumbing company the next morning and I explained to them that I may not need it. But from dealing with them over the years, they're giving you more and more where they want you to do everything online because they're making it inconvenient to talk to a person.
The contractors are good. I had a problem with my washer last year and the first technician that came out saw where there was a lot of things that needed to be replaced at that time because they were all going dead. He ordered the parts but when the parts came in the company, they sent another technician and this guy I got the impression that he was lazy. So, he said, "Well, you don't really need all of these and this and that.” He ended up ordering another part. And then, the third guy that showed up to do the repair on the washer ended up taking most of the parts that had been ordered back because he said, "You didn’t think you need it for the moment that time." Each one of them had a different spin. I felt the two other guys had shortchanged me on that. But so far, the washer has been working.
I'm a trustee in my subdivision and I get a lot of people a lot of times telling me, "Hey, I got this problem and this problem," and so I highly recommend American Home Shield. I also have a next-door neighbor and every time I look up, I see Budget over there doing something at their house. So, they tell me they're really impressed with Budget and they're impressed with American Home Shield. And that had been the case with the people that I had referred American Home Shield to. They have been impressed as I have. Everything has been excellent. I had a problem once with the air conditioning and I called American Home Shield, and they sent another company which made the decision to replace the air conditioner. When I ran into a problem, I called in and talked to a person, and they took care of it right away. Overall, American Home Shield has been great that's why I've been with them this long.

The two toilets in my Tucker, Georgia property were running after flushing it. The plumber, sent out by American Home Shield, came exactly on time and was really polite. He didn't see anything wrong and just changed the little toilet stop valve, but it was still doing the same thing when I flushed it so he adjusted the height where you can twist and tighten up the seal. It seemed to work when he was there, but it's worse now because it continuously ran if the handle wasn't pulled back up to the neutral or start position. I then resubmitted the request for this plumbing issue online while I was also doing another claim for the dishwasher, but the system didn't let me put in two requests. Other than that, the online claim submission was easy. It asks for the brand of the appliance and it's just clicking boxes.

In doing a telephone claim one time, I was on hold for 30 minutes so I went online after that. And submitting the claim worked out better online. You just put the information in and it wasn’t long after that American Home Shield sent me a text to tell me who would come in and look at the problem. The online part of it is good. It’s when you’re trying to get in touch with somebody that's hard. But you've got to wait for everything now because people are not hiring anybody to do it so everything is computerized. Besides, the claims reps treated me well and I got good customer service from them.
Every one of the contractors sent by American Home Shield was good. In one visit, there was another issue that the contractor couldn't take care of so I had to call American Home Shield back. I submitted the claim around Thanksgiving and it took about a week before I could get somebody out. I assumed that was because it was during the holidays. But once the electrician came and took care of the problem, everything was up and running. So far, I’ve been real satisfied with my service. I would recommend American Home Shield, especially to somebody who's been in the home for a while. The warranty is good for that.

My garage door was going up slow and I did not know that when they go up slow, that means that there is tension on the spring and something is going wrong. One day when I was pushing the button, the spring broke and the door came down really hard. So I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out who stayed for an hour talking with me then was on the phone with American Home Shield for about 40 minutes. The gentleman then told me that AHS declined my claim because it was my fault that the garage door broke.
So I called AHS and told them, “Ma’am, how can it be my fault? I do not know the first thing about garage doors and this is why I pay the premium service, the top one”. She told me, “No, you should have known that you were adding pressure on the spring with the garage door going up slow. That’s why we’re declining it”. Like every other American, all I do is push the button to open and close it. They refused my claim which was very disappointing.
I have had AHS for five years and it seems that every time I call AHS, they look for the gray zone to wiggle their way out of paying for something but every month, the payment is automatic withdrawal. I pay AHS and if some reason there is a problem, they do not hesitate to call and grind real quick. "We need the payment. We need the payment". But when I need services, they try to wiggle out or look for that fine print that can help them not pay for a claim. I’m not too satisfied with AHS. I’m still paying it and once I’m done, I’m going to cancel them.
Also, the guy who came here was charging AHS about $700 to do it and then he turned around and told me, “Hey this is not the price I’m charging you. I’ll do it for $400 but I’m charging them $700. Just don’t say anything". I found that to be wrong itself. My garage door is still broken and it has been about three months. I can't even open it.

I've had a horrible experience with AHS. I needed to have a broken kitchen faucet replaced. The first contractor they sent out was supposed to come out at 8 AM but didn't show up so I requested a second one and he was absolutely fantastic to work with. However, he came with a builder's grade faucet. I wanted a better one so I bought my own. I expected AHS to reimburse at least the amount that they were going to pay for the original faucet but the process of trying to get reimbursed was horrible. Whenever I would call and try to talk to a live person, I’d have to be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour. Then, the customer service people absolutely refused to take my request to be reimbursed. They even refused to let me talk to a supervisor. I finally had to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau to get a response and once I did, someone contacted me and I got reimbursed. The whole process took two months. I was very dissatisfied.
I understand your frustration with the two-month delay you experienced to get reimbursed for the faucet of your choice. Also, I understand that the hold times were long. I would be glad to speak with you in regard to your experience.

Our shower stopped working and I was knowledgeable enough that I speculated that it was possibly a frozen pipe before the plumber got here. A plumber showed up but wasn’t able to do anything under our home warranty. The representative I spoke with said that a frozen pipe is not covered under the warranty. And it was a waste of my time waiting around for a contractor who wounded up being a little late and he couldn't do anything to prove or disprove if it was a frozen pipe. He couldn't fix it, too. Despite that, American Home Shield communicated with us quickly.

I usually submit my claims online and the experience has been fine. It doesn’t let us really get specific about what the problem is, though, which is one thing that we noticed. An outlet in the bathroom did not work at all and there was no reason found at the breaker panel. The electrician was wonderful and he was attentive. He listened and he investigated the problem thoroughly, and he found out that our GFCI was wired incorrectly. Since the repair, the outlet has been working great. Sometimes it would be nice if there were a couple of different companies to choose from, and we would rather have other people aside from the ones they send, particularly the plumbers. But as far as everything else, it has been pretty good so far. American Home Shield is a really good idea when you are buying a previously owned house.

I'm been paying premiums for over 5 years now to AHS for my townhouse but the one time you need them-It's always such a hassle getting them to help you. My dishwasher wasn't working so put in a request 1/3/18. The contractor didn't show up for his first appointment. The send appointment he said she didn't know the company for the appliance then by 1/11 they figured out the motherboard needed replacement and wasn't available. They washed hands off our request- marked it as closed and when I call Vertex appliances they tell me now it's up to AHS shield to replace the item. Nobody from AHS has contacted me. When I call them today they don't know anything about what's going on- while they have charged me the service fee on top of my premiums. This is ridiculous. We have gone almost 4 weeks without a dishwasher not knowing what's happening next. Feels like such a waste of money spending on them. So frustrating.
Updated on 02/02/2018: Now it’s been 4 wks since this whole thing started for us. After waiting for 4 wks the part arrived but (surprise, surprise!!) it's the wrong part- because the technician who ordered it never even came to the house! So again we are back to square one! The social media coordinator from AHS emailed once and then has been MIA still! They assigned a new contractor whose first available is 2 wks from now. What should a customer like me do- have paid all my premiums, have already paid for the visit which was a total waste of time and money and still no resolution. I’m ready to post on Facebook/Twitter/anywhere and everywhere people will listen how bad AHS service is.

My hot water heater broke and American Home Shield replaced it. The problem started when the water heater that their plumber put in started to leak soon after it was installed. I called them and they sent their plumber to look at it ($100 charge just for that). He looked at it and said it shouldn't be a problem. A few months went by and the leak got much worse (see pictures). I called them and they sent the plumber back out (another $100). This time he said it was serious and that if left as is, the whole thing could go and create a major problem. He also said that you couldn't just replace the leaking pipe but that the entire unit had to be replaced. After this, I was shocked when I got called by American Home Shield and they said that they would not cover this. I said "but you did the work, you didn't do it correctly, do you not stand by your own work?" They said they only cover units that are leaking and there was no water on the floor.
I offered to send them the pictures (attached below) but they wouldn't look at them and wouldn't send another person out to look at the situation unless there was water actively leaking. Literally, they would not let me speak to anyone else or have anyone review the situation further. While thinking about taking this to court, I just didn't want the bother so I had to reach into my pocket and pay $2,000 for a new water heater (which was amazingly installed without anything leaking!) So what in the world did I have American Home Shield for? Needless to say I've gone to someone else for Home insurance and would not, in any way, recommend American Home Shield.
Howard,
Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your experience. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist.

My heater was not working and I had to wait for the AC company to get in touch with me. Submitting the claim was easy but timing was terrible because it was Friday evening going into Christmas week so I was so cold. But this was in Arizona so it’s not that bad. My unit was 20 years old and it was time to be replaced. I went ahead and did that.
The contractor was good. The pricing was fair. He explained everything pretty well, and did some extra work for me that you wouldn’t expect for an air conditioning company to be able to do plus it didn’t cost too much. The one thing that sucks about home warranty though is that it’s very difficult to get something replaced. It just keeps getting fixed over and over again. It's also different from what people think that the home warranty covers. Otherwise, I’m happy with American Home Shield.

We had a copper pipe that was leaking and American Home Shield sent out a plumber to repair the issue. Unfortunately, the plumber had to come out three times before it was fixed. Ultimately, the problem was a water heater gone bad and it was sending current through the pipes. Trying to resolve this issue was cumbersome and a pain because our water heater interfaces with our HVAC system. American Home Shield did not have anyone of their vendors that work on our type of water heater so we had to find our own. It was a $4,000 job to replace our water heater. After we went through the process and found a licensed contractor, American Home Shield then told us that they only would reimburse up to $1,600 because of the type of water heater we have which we weren’t aware of.
Getting the actual pipe fixed was a really good experience. But getting to the root cause of the issue with the water heater was terrible. We had the same issue as well when our air conditioner went out. They sent contractors out that didn’t work on our type of system. The communication with the contractors wasn’t bad though. There was one company that American Home Shield sent out. We had to pay a $100 fee but they weren’t able to work on it so we had to get that refunded. However, getting in contact with American Home Shield was another headache because typically, anytime we called, we had to wait on hold for 45 minutes until we got someone.
But everything is good now. We finally got our water heater replaced almost two weeks ago and it’s great. We highly suggest getting a home warranty to our friends and suggest a research and see which company suits them best. But for us, AHS is not the best fit so when our contract ends, we’d probably look and go with someone else.

After that, I was able to do it on the web and I was surprised that it was very easy and efficient. I didn’t have to wait on a long call either.
I also had to call back quite a few times for my AC but the schedule was set up fairly quickly. The contractors sent out for all these issues were quick and efficient, and the refrigerator and the AC are now working. We informed American Home Shield that our water heater was broken and it had to be replaced. We also gave them the model, and then the plumbing company came and they said that they brought a shorter and fatter version of a different brand. They also said that they needed to change and extend gas and water lines. They asked approximately $600 as an extra cost. I called American Home Shield's customer service and I had to really talk, fight and travel to get a second opinion because the water heater costs only $395. Even if I was paying the water heater plus their installation fee, they were charging $600 on the top of that. I felt it was not a right thing. They were trying to take advantage of the situation. Then the second company came and they could do it right away. They did well and everything is fine now. It was a very bitter experience, but American Home Shield is a good company and I've recommended them to several people.
Also, American Home Shield should have a consumer relationship phone number like other companies have. I had to talk to three different people for my issue and they were not able to understand. I had to ask one lady to put me through her manager and they were not ready to do that. It was getting delayed and we did not have the water heater for one week. Overall, I was satisfied with the other things. But it is very important to keep existing customers satisfied rather than trying to get new customers.

AHS has room for improvement. Before we had our refrigerator repaired but our ice maker still doesn’t work. The mechanism works and it will dispense ice if we put it manually but it doesn’t make any ice. I've had some aggravating experiences with AHS but mostly I've also had good ones. Moreover, he cleaned up after himself and wanted to make sure everything worked. I had another issue and instead of using the website, I made a phone call. Fortunately, that time, I didn’t have to wait very long to make contact. In the past, I've sometimes waited for hours to speak with someone.
Another time, I had an issue with my garbage disposal. The tech they sent came and took pictures of it. Apparently, the person who installed it, which was also a contractor with American Home Shield, didn’t install it correctly and it leaked. Underneath the sink, the top of the garbage disposal was all rusted. The tech said that he can’t do anything if it was not leaking. I said that it was all rusted under there and it was going to leak. I have just added one of my other rental properties on my American Home Shield account. I've been with them for over 10 years. I've dropped them and then I picked them back up and I really like the new policy that they have. The old one was the reason that I left. We recently made an appliance claim and got four things done on the rental property. The stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer needed to be repaired and we put all of them on one ticket. The refrigerator's door was bouncing back, so they fixed it. Also, the pilots weren't coming on right at the gas stove, the dryer was not heating to full capacity and the washer was not doing its full washing cycle.
When I was submitting the claim, I was on a very long hold which I didn’t like. I asked why that was and from what I was told, it was due to the flooding in Texas where the headquarters is. They haven't been able to get enough people, so the time equality of getting a service for that is horrible. I was on the phone and I was at work. I couldn't spend two hours on the phone trying to get a service call out. But I like talking to a live person and I don’t use the online submission. If we get so used to doing stuff online and automated, then they put people out of work. I'm used to working customer service and I know what it's like. I don’t like talking to recordings and I want the company to work for me because that’s why I pay.
Still, I was able to talk to an American Home Shield representative and everything was great. The contractor who came out was really friendly and from what I was told, they did a great job. I had my mother out there for the first call. Then the tenant was there when he repaired everything. My mother and the tenant both gave me great feedback. I was not going to replace it unless they said it was bad and I was very happy with the outcome. I was really surprised that submitting the claim was easy. I had no idea that I could call the warranty company. Once I took that warranty out, I didn't know that it would cover something like that even though I hadn’t sold the property yet. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is fairly easy. You go online, sign in, and then click "need service", then you have to explain what you need. They would say the service repair place will call within 48 hours. Recently, I sent a message over to let them know that I had a problem with my washing machine. But since it was a holiday weekend, it's hard to get a call from them.
So, I finally called three days later and then they gave me the appliance company's name and number and I called them and set up service. I got them to come the following day. While the technician wasn't able to repair my washing machine, he was kind and knowledgeable. And they gave us an offer to replace the washing machine. Additionally, you can make requests or refuse providers. They tried to give me one that was terrible, so I asked for a different one, and they got us that. Overall, American Home Shield is good. However the service people that they provide are not always the best, and you have to be selective.

When submitting a claim, we can go online or call them. Their representatives will then take our information, and they have been helpful. However, the last time we called, we were on hold for about an hour because they were having high call volume. They need to work on that so the clients are not on hold so long. Their contractors have been generally good, but we've had about two occasions where we weren't really pleased with the people they sent out. But everything usually works out as expected.

Filing a claim online to American Home Shield was really easy and all of it was good. The claim was for my heating system that was not working properly. The contractors usually get here the same day or the next day. And I’ll give them a big plus for being professional and courteous. Although, they’ve been coming back and forth because they’re figuring out the little problems while fixing the heater. AHS has been good at this point and they’re letting the contractors come back to look at the problem.
Other than that, AHS has terrible phone service. I’ve had a couple of instances where we needed to get something fixed with my account on the website and I was never able to get anybody to really work with. And once I got somebody, it would take an hour to get them on the line and if you got them, they hung up or you got disconnected. You can never get them back again. All in all, AHS has very good people over to do the service and I’m very satisfied with their professionals.

I have been having problems with the replacement washer that I got two years ago through American Home Shield. When the Burke's technician came out, I described to him what the problem was. I told him that when I get on the bulky side cycle, like with the bulky sheets and towels, it wouldn't go through all the stages and it would stop. He did some diagnostic test. First, he had to level it off and a whole bunch of stuff. He got different parts and I have all of my receipts. Then, the problem continued to occur and they sent out another senior tech person under Burke's Appliance and Repair. He said, "We had a code about the lid not locking." I said, "Yeah, that happens too." But that started after they did the first initial diagnostics and made some changes.
The senior tech came out on the 23rd, Saturday morning before Christmas Eve and he installed the lid lock. He said he turned it through all the cycles and everything is fine. I said, "I have a lot of clothes I need to wash." I put a load of about 10 towels and it stopped. I said," I'm going to leave these towels right where it is in the washing machine because I want you to see. I didn't want Burke's to come back out because Burke's didn't come out." American Home Shield tried to reach them. They didn't respond even to American Home Shield so, when I called them, I've had them there through the whole Christmas holiday.
The washing machine is only two years old and I have called Whirlpool. Whirlpool mentioned to me, "Do you think they would pay for me to send you our factory authorize technician out?" I said, "I doubt it." Because my hot water heater went out and that's supposed to be covered. I didn't like how they responded to that so I had to go with BGE Home. The people that they transferred me to, Monster Tech, does heating and our refrigeration. However, it would have been nice for them to tell me that they weren't coming and that they had to be rescheduled because the clients that they have didn't have any heat.
I understand your concerns with the service you have experienced to have your washer repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that you encountered.

I’m very happy with American Home Shield. I’ve been with them for several years now, and I just stopped it for a while when we moved, and then I picked it right back up. Last spring, I called in to submit a claim for the washing machine. The tech is good and the washing machine was repaired, however, in less than a month it was doing the same thing that it was doing before. So, I went back online and submitted a claim the second time. A different rep came from the same company. He was very informative, and just like the first guy, he was very respectful. Both talked like they knew what was going on with the washer and I had every confidence in them.
I told the second guy that I wasn’t pleased with the service because in less than 30 days, the same thing was happening again. The rep said that the person who initially came out no longer worked for him. And because the rep said it would cost way too much to get the washing machine fixed from the condition that he diagnosed first as what the first person diagnosed, I just went ahead and got the washing machine replaced. It’s a small washer and it’s been good since the replacement. I would recommend American Home Shield. I was very pleased with the service that I've gotten and the cost is not astronomical too. The maintenance fee went up a little bit from $75 when I first started to $100 now.

When I went online to put a request for a leaking washing machine, American Home Shield got back to me within an hour. This was on a Friday and their representative said someone would be there Monday morning. The contractor was there Monday morning. He was courteous and professional, and then he had to order the part. There was a busted hose inside the washing machine that needs to be replaced. The part came in later on that week and the contractor came and fixed it. Since the repair, everything is back to normal. I can do my laundry now. If a friend or family member is interested in a home warranty company, I'd recommend American Home Shield. They're very good.

I had some leakage in my bathroom and the contractor sent out by AHS helped us to change one valve in the bathroom, and then, patched the wall. There’s no leakage from the wall now. I also had a claim on November 29 and this was my most recent one. It's changing a faucet and the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. Since the repair, the disposal works properly. The contractor has been efficient and effective. The service is a 30-minute work, and was professional. Submitting the claim with AHS was efficient as well. I did it online, and AHS’ website is user-friendly and well-constructed.
It would be better though if AHS sends one person following the same problem over time. For the same work, they sent out two groups of people. But I think that's not a big deal because they finish the job well. It has been a good experience. I don't want to repair my stuff all the time. But if it comes, it's being addressed efficiently. And with AHS, one can probably also save money because something is going to go wrong from time to time at home.

I have a microwave oven in one of my rental homes and every time one contractor comes, you have to pay $75 and I was disappointed with them. They don't do the service. They just fix it for a couple of months. So I just went to the store to bought one to put on the top of the counter. The people that American Home Shield work for them should be honest with the work. People get mad. So I canceled and I pulled back again. And then we chose another company. When a customer calls in a problem, the company they signed up with will come and do the service but they not do a good job. Then they come to collect the $75 and then you call them back again after a couple of months.
We live in the valley and it was so hot last year. The renters called us to say that the air conditioner was not working. The air conditioner was 10 years old. But the service guy told me that it will take one day and I have to order it. They won't come because they were so busy that time. So, I had to send the renters for five days to a hotel and paid them because they cannot stay in the house because it was very hot. We had to call somebody else and I went to buy a new air conditioner. This guy promised me that it will cost me $5,500 personal insurance in four days, and that he can put it on because they have to order.
They put the air condition and put everything to work. At the same time, it cost from my pocket $6,000. When I came back, American Home Shield told me that I had to go through the process and call people. I got upset and told them that we're going to cancel the policy because this is BS. Then the lady rep said that she will talk with the company. Finally, after a couple of months, they said that they will give us $2,000 as long as we don't cancel with them. But at the same time, I put out $4,000 from my pocket because I had to go through the process. The service that American Home Shield do isn’t good. I'm an old lady and I have insurance for my house and rentals. They have to be honest because I pay $50 every month for the insurance.

The heat of my furnace was off and when I submitted a claim for that with American Home Shield I had to be on hold for about 40 minutes to get through to them. Trying to get through American Home Shield is like pulling teeth, it’s going to take forever to get the teeth out. Another time, I was on hold for an hour. One time, it was two hours. It was a total of about four times of calling before I finally said, “Look, I don’t want to talk to you no more, you don’t sign your paycheck, let me speak to your supervisor”. When that person got on, I said “No, let me speak to your supervisor”, and that’s the only way I was able to get help.
The people that they sent here had come three times to fix it. When they first came we had heat but it was smoking so we had to call the fire department and the fire department went up there and said that they didn’t see anything wrong but I had to get somebody out to check it. So, AHS sent somebody to check it and they said it was the wires. They replaced a couple of wires on there. I do not ever want Cutting Edge, the contractor, to ever come back here because they started this chain reaction. The very first time they came they were very unprofessional with the profanity and they didn’t know what they were doing. They had to say, “I don't know what I’m doing, let me go get someone”. Then they had to go and get the boss and when they came back, they wired it totally wrong and almost caused an explosion in this house. We were going back and forth without heat in the frigid cold since November the 22nd and it was a nightmare.
AHS finally found someone who came out and did excellent service. He went upstairs, isolated the problem and came back downstairs with the burnt out wire. Then we had to go to an electrician who came and said that we needed to get Cutting Edge back out here because when he turned the circuit breaker on the thing produced a “Boom!” and shut off, sparks and everything. It was very scary but it took a good 30 minutes for the new guy to come and fix it. When we tell AHS that there is a dire emergency, they need to speed up. We’re not trying to twist their arm or trying to get ahead of the list but they need to make it a priority.

Our neighbor recommended Home Shield three months ago and right after that, everything kept falling apart. I submitted my claims online and recently, it was for the kitchen faucet that was leaking. I filed another claim for my tub faucet that was also leaking and the contractor is coming out today to work on that. On average, it takes five days for someone to come out. But overall, AHS would save me money in the long term. So if any other neighbor were to ask, I would still recommend them.
So far, things have been pretty good with AHS, except that incident I had with Sears. My washing machine wasn’t working and Sears took too long to repair it. First, it took them a week to have somebody come out and order a part. Then, when the part came to the house, the service wasn’t available for another two weeks. With three kids, it was hard for me to have a broken washing machine for that long. It was a three-week process with Sears and finally, I got fed up and called AHS to have the work reassigned to somebody else. Someone came that day with the part that was already ordered by Sears. Initially, he wouldn’t do it because the part was ordered by someone else. But he left and called his manager. Then he came back an hour later, luckily put the part in, and it worked.

I submitted a claim for my heating and a claim for my electricity. American Home Shield sent someone out for the heating, but no one ever came out for my electricity. They charged me $200 dollars on my card, so I was also charged for a service that I didn’t get. They said they were going to refund the $100 but I never got it. There was also a guy that was trying to force us to get a new air conditioning unit. He was trying to use some kind of scare tactic, saying that I needed a new AC. He saw the carbon monoxide that I was having and I told him that somebody came a couple of months ago and they didn’t say anything about a leak. But because I wanted to get a second opinion, he just fixed the heating and didn’t do anything with the AC.
I told him to go ahead and order the part for the AC but he said there was no sense in doing that, and he never submitted the order for that part. American Home Shield said they were waiting for that order because he said I was going to get a second opinion. American Home Shield kept sending him out, so this same guy put the part in. But now my house will not heat at the bottom floor and only heat at the top floor, so we had to plug up an extra heater for the downstairs. Before he came out, it would heat on both floors. And because downstairs is cold, they didn’t see anything wrong with it.
In the past, I had positive experiences with American Home Shield. I have a house in Dallas that I have American Home Shield on. But when I started renting it out, my brother became the leaser where he has rented out the home. He has Sword, and I told him that I’m going to switch to Sword once I get my money back from American Home Shield. I would not pay upfront ever again. Their customer service sends out people that are the bottom of the row. They are not worth it.
I understand your concerns with the service you have received while trying to get your furnace and electrical issues resolved. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the repairs.

I submitted the claim online, which is something that I very much like about AHS since I can have an online account and could submit my claims or requests to them. The contractors were professional and knowledgeable. They came out and fixed the problem the next day. I submitted the claim on a Friday and the plumber came out on Saturday so it was great. The toilet now performs perfectly. We also had AHS service a dryer previously. That was submitted online and they had another vendor come out for that. It was smooth. I submitted my heating claim with American Home Shield online. I tried to get through it on the phone several different times and one time, it said it was a four-hour wait. The contractor they sent didn't do any fixing. He just sat on the side of the unit and it froze up the very next day again. He didn't do any wrapping to prevent it from happening again. I’ve been trying to keep it from freezing up and now the temperature has raised. I had already paid for one visit and I figured they would send the same people back out. I tried to call them back another time but I couldn't get through so I've not tried again.
We had another claim with the washing machine and the same thing came out to happen. It was a different contractor and they said there was nothing wrong with the washing machine. I hope they send someone else. The washing machine's doing the same thing. The contractor didn't fix it and it's leaking water and not getting the clothes cleaned. I'm paying two different American Home Shield accounts for two different houses right now. There were two different contractors and two totally different things and neither one of them did anything when they came out but they took the $75 deductible out of our account immediately. And they said there was nothing they could do.

First the customer support is horrible. Wait times of over an hour. The customer reps say they will contact me the next day with information regarding my order; they never do. I had to call again and wait another hour (3 times) to get a hold of representative. I requested help regarding my air conditioner that was not cooling. The first service repairman came and recharged the system. Quickly left and told me that cooling coils need to be replaced but warned me that AHS will never do it. They will try recharging and using agents to try to repair the leak. The AC did not cool the next day. I requested another technician. He recharged the system and added more sealant.
He wrote on the receipt that the cooling coils are damaged and need to be replaced. I called AHS to ask why they won't replace the cooling coils. They informed me that the cooling coils need to be cleaned from mold. I told them there is no mold on the unit and that the technician did not mention any mold but said they are damaged from age. I asked why their assessment is different from the one that the technician gave me in writing. AHS replied that they won't share what the technicians report with me but my coils have to be cleaned and that is not covered. I requested a third opinion from a different company. The third technician wrote that the cooling coils need to be replaced due to damage (nothing about mold).
He underlined that AHS can deny the service. I had no reply from AHS for two weeks. When I called two days in a row AHS did not have an assessment from the technician. They promised to call back the next day. They never did. Third day I called and was told that the damage is from mold and they will not replace the part. I asked why the assessment that the technician gave me at home is different from AHS. AHS responded that the technicians may want give me false assessment to make money on the side and that AHS does not cover damage from mold (earlier they said they will not clean the cooling coils from mold). I asked why AHS trusts technicians that are lying to me in their assessment. AHS said they will not share the technician's assessment provided to AHS they will not cover the parts and hung up on me.
I believe AHS wants to continue to do small repairs but never intended to cover replacement of major parts. The technicians written assessment in my house was different from what AHS told me and they would not prove that it came from the technician. I believe their operation is meant to charge premiums service fees and never cover any significant repairs. Their customer service is designed to make the customer stop calling due to long wait times and the hassle they put the customer through.

I have had American Home Shield for four years now, and I recently had a plumbing claim for my hot water heater. It had the pilot light out and the techinician said a piece was missing on the bottom where it keeps the dirt out. And he couldn’t turn it on because it would be a danger. So he just struck the power line. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they could send somebody out, but I wouldn't have hot water for a day or two. So I just went ahead and told the technician to put one in. And I paid $1,300 outright.
What I didn't realize at that time was that the piece was still out there, probably taken off and was left on some shelf in the garage. I saved it, but I didn’t have him come back anymore. Everything was fine since the repair. American Home Shield had also sent someone to fix my ice maker, but the person who sent didn't fix it. So they sent another one who took care of it. Also, one of our commodes had something fall in it. It was slowly draining and sometimes it wouldn't even flush. I called it back about 15 minutes and someone was sent out the next day. And then he fixed it within 10 minutes that he was here. I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend and I just renewed my warranty this month. Our double-decker washing machine was banging and making a lot of noise. I called American Home Shield via phone to submit the claim and let them know that whoever would come out needed to undo the screws on the bottom of the sliding doors because they were overlapping in front of the washer-dryer for about six inches. Their first response was that I was responsible for that but I said it was not something I could physically do because I had knee surgery. I was asking them, not just for good service, but for compassion. If I had a contractor I would not have American Home Shield. But the first company said they were not going to do it. They left me a voice message and sent an email saying they were cancelling before even talking with me. I couldn't deal with it right then. I was dealing with healing my knee and I needed to pay attention to my movements and being on crutches.
So after my surgery I just let it go. And then into December I decided to try again and when I called I got another through American Home Shield to renew my membership for 2018. When I called about the renewal the person I spoke with was terrific. He did a great job. He used to work in service and now he is in sales. Once we agreed on the price for next year I let him know that I was having a challenge because they promised the vendor access and I couldn't provide that. So he went down the hall to service and talked to one of his supervisors. Then he said they were going to help me out with it. They were going to get me another company and make sure that they can help me. We also did our transaction with my credit card to sign up for another year of American Home Shield.
Then the supervisor from the other company called me within a few hours and was very understanding. I told him what was happening and he said he was going to have to send two guys out because I made it clear the washer-dryer was a double-decker. Both the guys were terrific. They were very polite and customer service oriented. They listened well and asked good questions. They did all the things that I teach when I teach customer service.
They helped each other to move the unit out and I saw one of the guys took off the front of the washing machine and say I needed another belt. I said that I hope that was it because it sure was making a lot of noise. They said they've got that taken care of and they went ahead and checked the dryer. There was too much lint that had built up over a year. I clean it every time but it had built up into the tubing that goes outside so they cleaned that out. It was the dryer and things gets hotter and hotter because I was losing some of the heat. I was really pleased with them.

I got American Home Shield when I purchased my home and I've had it for over three years. I've also purchased a policy for my mother's home. During my first year, I thought the service was okay but I'm very disappointed with the service at this point. In my home, I had an older air conditioning system and it was leaking Freon. They just kept sending guys out to put Freon in it, but the Freon would just leak out again. Finally, one guy came and he snooped the coils. He said that both coils upstairs and downstairs were leaking and needed some huge amount of Freon.
At that point, it's required by law that I change the coils. However, they fired that guy and lost the paperwork. And they have no record of that paperwork. I have that paperwork but they don’t. They sent another guy out and he said that they can repair those coils. Then he put a little bit of Freon in the AC. Then they said, they will put in the coils, but they won't buy the coils that belong to my unit. They were going to buy cheaper coils, retrofit them, then charge me $1000. Those ACs were all old machines and new machines are really needed to be put in. I went ahead and I paid to have new equipment put in upstairs and downstairs. They were going to cash me out and give me $800, but I asked the lady about the one upstairs.
I'm going to send them the information where the company that they fired said that the machines were no good, and I need to follow-up. Also, I would really like to be paid for both machines. So they were very deceptive and I haven't settled this yet. But I'm still with them because I just recently had a positive experience where AHS sent someone out and fixed a couple of plumbing issues. However, when I look at the math, I'm spending a lot more money than I'm getting in insurance.
My mother also had an air conditioning problem. The guy called and said that he was going to be there at 4 o'clock, but he didn’t come. My mom is 80 and he wanted to come after dark at 9 PM. My mom refused and couldn't get anyone out there. Finally, she had me cancel the service and had her normal AC guy come out. He replaced all the units.
Previously, I had registered for a plumbing problem, but the guy never came out until I finally canceled. When you register, you have to pay in advance before they'll come out and I don't know if I even got my 75 bucks back. It's only good insurance if the repairs are small, but whenever it becomes meaningful, they back out of it. If one has a big problem, they're going to find a loophole and get out of it. If it's going to cost them more than a couple hundred bucks, they're very dishonest. I would not recommend AHS unless you are getting it as part of a home purchase and you are uncertain about the equipment. It would at least give you a chance for the first year.

Sometimes, it would come on that way. But then, when it wouldn’t work, I made the call to AHS. It was something electrical that I didn’t know anything about and I needed to call somebody to come out and look at it. The contractor went right to the problem and fixed the issue in less than 20 minutes, and I haven’t had a problem with it since. They were very friendly, too, and I would highly recommend them. We’ve been totally satisfied with AHS. It has been a huge help and money saver because if I didn’t have it, then I’d have to come out of my pocket.

We first turned our claim in for our stove last December 31 and we are still waiting on a repair. American Home Shield keeps putting us off. I called twice and told them to have a supervisor call me because nobody else gives me anything other than a first name or a number. They refuse to give me a supervisor. I waited on hold on the line for two and a half hours to be told that somebody would call me in 48 hours, again a supervisor and again nothing. They finally said they were going to replace our stove but they have not given us an amount to use and every time, it was 48 hours so it will be 48 hours for them to look for parts.
I called back and they told me it would take seven to nine days for them to look at parts, so I waited. Two days ago, they said they were still looking for the part. When I complained, they finally came back and told us that they would send an email in 48 hours and I’d be able to look for a stove. I received the email asking what kind of stove I had, but they should know that as they came to repair it. I filled that out yesterday and still nothing. And after the person came out to repair it, it took a week before they talked to me about it because they said the company did not turn the stuff in. When the company finally turned it in, it was 48 hours, seven to nine days, 48 hours, and not one day did a supervisor call me.
I feel like they were laughing at me and waiting for me to purchase one. It’s terrible because we are spending all this time without a stove. We can’t cook and it’s also terrible weather so we couldn’t get out of the house for two days. We are just waiting and I’m not going to call again because it’s another 48 hours every time. American Home Shield has gone up over the years on the payments so it’s frustrating and terrible. It’s been a really poor experience right now and I’m not happy.

I'm happy with American Home Shield and I’ve used them quite a bit. I've also used their website before so I’m familiar with it. I have their app on my phone as well. I filed a claim as my heater burned up during the New Year’s as we were getting ready for the party. I had the fire department throughout the house because my house was burned up. Everybody was out for three days because of the holidays and the weather. The first contractor who came out was fine but they didn't check the system. When the same company came back out, they said that the system burned up. We were out of heat during the cold snap that we had it going to East Coast for about 10 days.
AHS should have something during holidays and hours off. It's a little cumbersome to talk to somebody when I call into the system. I just can’t go online and follow the prompt saying hit 1 for heating element or 3 for your refrigerator. They got to have somebody to talk to. Even though they responded very well and did all the claim stuff with the company who came out to fix the unit, they still need to have some more people available because accidents or issues don't happen just Monday through Friday.

The filter of the pool cracked so I made the claim with American Home Shield online since it takes forever to do it over the phone. I've never waited for more than 20-minutes then I hang up before I could hear their voices. The gentleman who came was very nice. He fixed it and replaced the filter and it was done very quick. They also treated me really well. Everything is working fine now. I would recommend AHS.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for a long time now and it is easier to navigate online than it is to get through on the phone. Each time I've called on the phone, I had to wait an hour. In one case, I got to a number then they directed me to another number which put me in another line which was even longer. My recent claim was for my washing machine and it was time-consuming. There were two technicians who came out. The first one supposedly fixed it. It was good for a week or so and then it started leaking again. And that's when from the same firm, another technician came out and said it was not reparable.
After that, we were without a washing machine for about five weeks or so. The technician reported the findings to American Home Shield. And then, I contacted American Home Shield to see where we would be going from there, especially about getting a new machine. I had to play around with that for a while, checking out machines and not really getting a good explanation about how they arrived at the amount of money that they were willing to give me toward the cost of a new machine. But they ordered the machine and it came within a week.
The first one was a GE washing machine and it was unacceptable. We know friends who have had them and the GE was totally unreliable. So, we wanted to try to get Maytag. We went to look at several stores to see what kind of machines my wife would like and we saw a Whirlpool so we wound up getting the Whirlpool. And as it turns out, I don't know how this happened, but the retail price that American Home Shield quoted for both of them was the exact same amount of money, for both the Maytag and the Whirlpool. That's what they were putting toward the cost of the machine which was $649. I had to pay $236. But the thing was, they may have been basing what they pay on an older machine and what it might have cost back when it was first purchased rather than just comparable machines. I never did get a good explanation about how they arrived at the amount of money that they were willing to include.

I woke up one morning and there was no hot water. I called American Home Shield and the claims rep I dealt with was professional and handled my claim. However, by the end of the day, the hot water was back on. So I called before the contractor came out and canceled the service. We've had American Home Shield for six years now and it’s very valuable. My husband and I are an older couple and we appreciate AHS for doing their thing.

I called to submit a claim to American Home Shield, they sent somebody out and I paid $75 online. Their claims process was very easy and the contractor they sent fixed the issue. The plumber was very nice and he came out in a good amount of time because when you have a plumbing problem, you need somebody right away. He came out quickly, took care of the problem and we were very happy with it. It has been a very positive experience. We really like having American Home Shield. They're easy to work with, it is a good company, everything's been on the level honest and it's a good service to have.

I just got the service with AHS in August and it has been a little rocky. When I called about my heat pump, they sent someone out who took a look at it but the contractor said that they were not qualified to work on that type of unit. I was then told that somebody else would call me within 24 hours to reschedule. But nobody did, so I had to go back into the cue and get somebody else out. When I did that, they assigned it to the same contractor who already told me that they weren't licensed to work on my unit. So I had to go back in the queue and call again. It was not easy to get through their lines. The other day, when I was trying to call, it was a two-hour wait. Once I finally got through to someone and told them what the issue was, the contractor ended up having to call them back to tell them not to send the same people out. So they sent somebody else out and it worked out fine. Later, I had a couple of other claims and they all worked out fine.
When my sump pump was not working, AHS got me a plumber to get in touch with. I scheduled an appointment and told him exactly what was happening to it. After he got there, he said the pipe was frozen and that that would not be covered by the warranty. He also said that I would have to pay him directly for $187 that day for a temporary fix. I agreed to that but he didn’t do a very good job. He cut the line above ground and had it running out to my patio to drain but he didn’t run it all the way out to the patio. He left it on the bed and now there are dirt and roots everywhere. Plus, my TV is not working in the kitchen because right where he was working was part of my cable. Then he said he wouldn't be back out until March. So I got this big mess in my backyard until March and when he comes back, it'd cost me twice as much to reattach with a new pipe. I agreed to that because I had no choice at that point.
I looked at my contract with AHS and I didn’t see that the work was not covered anywhere other than roots. Then I saw their flashing disclaimer, “Frozen pipes are not covered.” I was not happy about it but I accepted it. Then I got a notification that AHS was going to charge me the $100 service charge. That is not okay because I had to pay the contractor directly. I talked with them and their rep put that payment on hold. Then she said that someone would be calling me within 24 to 48 hours, but nobody called.
So I called AHS again on Monday and the person I spoke with said that she looked at the file and the notes, and apparently, the person that originally took my call had not properly done the paperwork, so my request to have a manager call me never occurred. She assured me that she would do the paperwork correctly and that a manager would indeed be getting back with me within 48 hours again. The charge was still there, though, and when she looked at it, she said that the hold had been put on it but wasn't released on the charge. After that, someone from AHS called me. I thought it was the manager calling but she said that she wasn't. She that that she was calling for a different purpose but that she'd follow up to make sure that they did. She was supposed to call me back Monday afternoon at 1:00, but she didn’t.
Overall, I'm not happy with American Home Shield’s business practice. They're charging me a $100 service fee for a work they did not cover and I had to pay the other company directly. I didn’t agree with that but I went ahead and did it. I would discontinue using them if that continues. I just need somebody to do their job and call me for the things that they're willing to do.
I understand your concerns with the service you experienced and the service fee that was paid to the contractor. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

AHS does everything for us and we don't have to do any paperwork. It's brilliant and I tell my friends to get their warranty. When we have a claim, we'd give AHS a call, then they send us an email telling us which contractor would be coming out. Then the contractor would contact us and make an appointment. When they come out, they normally give us a quote. But it depends on the contractor and the kind of claim we have. We usually pay $75 but if it's a Freon problem on the air conditioning unit, sometimes we have to pay more on top of that amount. On the day of the appointment, the techs would also give us a call saying they are on their way. Recently, there was a problem with our compact dust, so we called AHS. They sent somebody out and that went great. It took 10 days for them to get the part they needed, but when they got it, they came back and did the repair straight away.

We had a pipe leak in the laundry room. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out who did the repair. The contractor was great. The last claim we had, they replaced a ventilation ducting in the attic and it made the ventilation adequate now. I also need some more ventilation work and I am going to call that company to come out and give me an estimate.
I have used AHS several times. The reps are always professional and they’re always willing to work with me and help me any way they can. I’m now retired but when I was working I was traveling a lot and having the warranty gave my wife peace of mind to know that she could depend on AHS to come out and do a repair if she needed it. It was very satisfying. I knew when I called them, they would respond immediately and they did. I’d be off the phone and I would have an email to me saying they notified the contractor and they would be calling me within the 24-hour period of time. And nine times out of 10, they would call me sometimes an hour or two after I put the claim in.

A contractor had come out in November and fixed the furnace. However, about a month later, there was ice forming on the outside of the building, and I could smell gas. I just knocked off the ice and called American Home Shield to make another claim. The guy who came back out said that the flue pipe was tilted, and he made all the corrections. He and I were under the assumption that American Home Shield was covering everything, so he fixed the problem, but the following week, we got a call saying that it was not covered. It does say on my contract where everything is basically covered, but for some reason, American Home Shield did not want to pay that, and I have not talked to them again.
I have got two claims with American Home Shield. I made an electrical claim and the electrician came out, but he did not finish the work. He took my doorbell down and I paid $75. Another problem was with PK Plumbing who installed the water heater. They were supposed to apply for a permit in the city hall and I realized that there was no paperwork. I reached out to American Home Shield and they did not want to really talk to me about anything. They say to call the company and to pay them the $150 or 200 that I owed them for service calls, and the calls were not even completed. In the past, American Home Shield has been very good and I guess they cannot help if a plumber, one of their contractors, does not go and get the permit. Overall, I have been satisfied with American Home Shield.

We bought the house on December 1st and we’ve been with American Home Shield for a month and a half. When the garbage disposal unit leaked recently, I submitted a claim with AHS online and their website was easy to navigate. Within 24 hours, the contractor came and replaced the unit and my wife said the techs were nice. Since then, the garbage disposal unit has been good. I submitted another claim for the ceiling fan before, but AHS said it wasn’t covered. There are different levels of warranty and I didn’t have coverage for that.

My service box was 25 years old and it shorted so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I pay every year so I just contacted them and went through the process. However, American Home Shield didn't provide a human being to speak with. On their voice activated claims phone number it selected plumbing when I said electrical. So they mismarked my claim and a plumbing contractor came out. I went without hot water in the winter time for 10 days but in the end, my service box got replaced and the electrical contractor did a great job.
American Home Shield should hire people and quit using the robots. That would’ve prevented the problem of them calling my claim as a plumbing issue when it was really an electrical issue. The other problem is you can't report the claim and you can't even talk to anybody about it. I know maintenance so it's not a problem for me, but for people who don’t have that background knowledge they can’t ask a question to anybody without having to pay the 75 dollar service fee which is not right. They need to have a human interface so they can have a human index to tell them as to what the problem is, so that they can apply it to the right contractor.
I understand your concerns with the most recent service you received to have your hot water heater and electrical issue repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

We had a pressure valve on the top of our water heater go out and it got progressively worse. I went to American Home Shield's website to submit a claim and it was super easy to just click and tell them what I needed, rather than calling and waiting so long, and wait for people to call back. The technician was topnotch and nice, knew what he had to do and got the heater repaired in a couple of days. Its performance has been wonderful since the repair and my water bill is decreasing now. AHS is straightforward on what they cover and what they don’t. The warranty is easy to use, the price is comparable to everybody else nowadays and they get the job done.

We filed a claim online to AHS for our refrigerator that kept going on and off. There was a delay in getting the contractor to come out and it took almost a week for them to come. When the contractor came to try to fix the refrigerator, they didn’t think they would be able to so they submitted the claim for a replacement. They called Thursday approving the claim and said it would take about two weeks for the check to arrive. AHS needs to speed up a little bit, but they are definitely worth it.

We’ve had AHS since we bought the home in the middle of October. Sometime around December, I noticed the ceiling was wet. It was a leak around an elbow of a pipe leading up to a sink and it was inside the ceiling. I set up an appointment online and American Home Shield’s website was easy to navigate. AHS sent a contractor and he knew that it was within the walls but he couldn’t get to it. The home warranty didn’t cover anything within the walls so we got it fixed outside of AHS. I’ve also filed a claim with them for a dishwasher that stopped working and it wound up being a small solenoid switch within the control panel. It was fixed and they also fixed an icemaker, too. The water pipe was repaired, plus the dishwasher and the icemaker have worked since the repair. My experience was easy and I’m satisfied.

I had a problem with my water heater. I had to pay for the replacement first and then they partially paid for some of it. I submitted the claim over the phone and I had to talk to them a lot. I have to constantly stay on the phone for three hours. They need to do something about this because I constantly had to just sit on the phone and wait for someone to come on the line and talk to me. Other than that, the contractors they sent were nice.
My furnace had gone out now and it went out after the water heater went out. I haven't been able to get it fix yet because the man they have sent out said that I will have to pay him $1525. I have had to do without a furnace for at least about a month and a half now. Also, I don't think they paid enough on my water heater because I had to pay most of the money myself. It was $1300 and they only paid about $500. They're not really bad about the way they were doing things but I don't think I was treated fairly about the amount of money that they pay.
