I had a claim for the washer two months ago and the young guy who came out looked like he was 19 years old. But he was professional and well-dressed. He presented himself very well and it was just straight business. I was surprised. He said that I needed a motor and that he would submit the claim and come back within four days. He got back in a few days and was out in the garage for an hour. He did his thing and informed me when he was done. It was great.
I called about a tub issue on a Wednesday and the contractor came out the next day. I told them I would be on vacation and that they needed to get it done. The plumbing company told me on Thursday that they put me first on the list so I got all my crap done in the morning. They opened at 9:00. They called me at 9:30 and the guy was here at 10:00. With American Home Shield, the response is the freaking best.
The guy was very professional and courteous too. We chitchatted a little bit about sports. The tub's leaking into the garage and I thought there was a pipe broken in the ceiling in the garage. He knew right away what the problem was. There was probably the size of a quarter on the drywall in the ceiling of the garage and when you take a shower, it leaks. He said he would submit the claim and if it's accepted, he would do the job himself. He was a great guy.
When you have a leak, you call American Home Shield and they fix the leak within two days. Here comes a drywaller and within another day, here comes the stucco guy. These guys work good together. They’re also very sociable, nice and respectable. I offer them water, soda and Gatorade but they want nothing. I own a pool company and I give my clients a lot of referrals to American Home Shield. They’re not happy with their old company because when they get there, they’re complaining. I tell them to go to American Home Shield when the contract's up and six months down the road, they’re thanking me for the referral for American Home Shield.

I had a heating unit that kept popping the circuit breaker. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was easy. Then someone reached out to schedule an appointment within six hours of the same day. The contractors who came were friendly, helpful, and got the job done quickly and easily. So far, my heating unit has been great and my experience had been mostly positive.

American Home Shield has been very good to me over the years. Recently, I had to file a claim for my heat pump and they took care of it. The company that came out was very good. It was snowing and yet they came and helped me. It was a lifesaver. Since the repair, everything has been okay. But I got to get somebody to go down and turn the little light off. And while I've been very happy with my experience with American Home Shield, I wish their fee doesn't go up per visit. Our monthly premium went up every year. Additionally, I wish they covered more on Freon too.

I have three properties with American Home Shield warranty. Filing a claim with them was fast. Once I submit a claim, I'll have somebody calling me within 24 hours. I do everything online unless I'm away from my computer. It's quick and it is connected to email on my phone. Their contractors have been good, especially when I don't know what's wrong with something just like what happened to my dishwasher. They came and told me that the issue wasn't the dishwasher but the plumbing in the sink.
I had one issue with the furnace in a rental before. It wasn't covered so the cost had to come out of my pocket. It was a little frustrating because I did not know what the procedure was for me to be able to keep it up and what's in the fine print. So ever since that incident, I just had no issue with them as far as replacing or fixing. Other than that, there's no limit how many claims I could put in. They come and they know that I have the integrity to keep up my stuff and to depend on them. I recommend AHS to anybody. The money that I pay every month is worth it, especially in my rental. I like the peace of mind that I could call them when I do not know what's going on. All I have to do is give the deposit for them to come out.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was opened up because of a pressure regulator that was found to be bad after the installation of a water heater, which was a previous ticket for them. So on the initial case they wouldn't cover it because it wasn't initially authorized the first time, which infuriated me because it didn't have the one problem until they tried to fix the first problem. I was out of more money and more days, waiting for a plumber and potential issues with my water system.
The initial claim was put in online. The follow up I had to speak to an agent in which they sent a plumber out, which then AHS had to call me. And they had to open up another ticket and send out another plumber another day later. Substantially I had no water for five days. You take showers at neighbors' houses and inconvenient them. So American Home Shield's turnaround times aren't quick enough for certain things. The water is going everywhere and all over my basement and I tried to explain to AHS, "If it continues, if I would have left my water on my finished basement it would have been flooded and then we would have a homeowners claim." They do seem not to care. But with most incidents they have been good.
I understand your concerns with the delay service you encountered to have your water heater issues resolved. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

There were sand coming out inside the pool, so the laterals had to be replaced to make it function properly. I called in because there have been so many problems with American Home Shield. And unfortunately, you’re not allowed to have much opportunities to communicate with anybody via email. Another email to somebody and they do not reply, which is the most inconvenient thing in the world.
I just wrote them a letter regarding a payment - which is the third time I’ve had the same issue with American Home Shield, telling me that we’re delinquent in payment when we paid in advance for a service - rather than wait for a time to call in their phone service at least two to three times, ‘cause it always hangs up on you after waiting about 20 or 30 minutes. So, it can’t be an accident, it's way too coincidental. It’s trying to make it frustrating as hell for everybody so they’d give up and use some other method to contact them. But again, they’ll never provide you an email address to contact anybody for anything. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever dealt with. So, now I’ve just given up on it. Any questions coming, I’m not going to go through all of this nonsense again. I don’t have an hour and a half to waste every time I call this people.
I was very pleased with the contractors. They couldn’t be nicer, and they all did a great job. However, it’s just disorganization and poor customer service as far as American Home Shield keeping their records straight, calling up the vendors, etc.

I had mildew on the sofa and it was water-damaged, but the mildew had gone through downstairs and it got my sofa all messed up in the back. Flood Masters was sent out by American Home Shield and they did the evaluation of all the furniture. The rep took pictures but they had everything included except the sofa. He was also upset because I had people coming from the carpet place but he wanted to do everything. So, he was dissatisfied because I had somebody else. I called my son to call State Farm and they told him to send them a picture out and he did. No one got back with me about that.

Complaint to AHS: First I'd like to say that I have been a customer of AHS for over 10 years - I was at a different address in Edison and then moved to my current address. I've always been satisfied with the work I have had done although I think your prices are increasing too much. However, on July 24, 2017, I had a new garbage disposal (since the old one was faulty) installed by Hanna's Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Dispatch **, (sent to me by AHS). It only took about 30 minutes and the job was done. I had to pay $103.00 for the co-pay (now they charge tax on your co-pay which I think is totally unfair). Just yesterday, I turned on my kitchen sink faucet and water came pouring out underneath the sink into my cabinet. So, I called AHS and asked them to send me a plumber.
Now, I live in an adult community and asked one of our Maintenance people to take a look at it. What he found is NOT acceptable. It seems that when the new garbage disposal was installed, the tech "jerry-rigged" it to fit even though one of the pipes was too small/short. So, he jammed the pipe in and held it with some tape; he also put in the elbow connection incorrectly. It held for 6 months and then the tape fell apart and the flood ensued. According to AHS, I only have a warranty of 60 days with any work order. Obviously, this poor installation lasted for 6 months since it was taped but the use of the garbage disposal caused it to loosen and flood.
Consequently, after the Maintenance person was able to fix it, I cancelled the job I called into AHS. I had to pay him $50 for his labor and new part, but it was less than the $103.00 requested by AHS. Needless to say, I am totally dissatisfied with the AHS service. I think you use inferior, contractors that are cheap and don't have experienced people. What is my recourse with AHS? Can I get reimbursed for the $103.00 I paid for Hanna’s on July 24 for a poor job or can I at least get reimbursed for the $50.00 I had to pay someone else? OR can I get one month free of my monthly service fee to AHS? Please contact me ASAP. Thank you.
Elizabeth, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

I've been very happy with the service of American Home Shield over the years. We had an electronic keypad on our oven which can turn everything on and off and the timer evidently had a short. I called it in and they had the entire keypad replaced. I submitted the claim online and it was the first time I did it. I like it, but sometimes I prefer to talk to somebody. I've had problems in the past where there were changes that were made to my account number, so sometimes talking to a person is a little easier to check than having to figure things out. Their people are very helpful. They open the claim up for me, let me know the particular vendor that’s going to call me, and then I sit back and wait to be contacted by the service provider. I had a gentleman that came out to evaluate the oven and had to order some parts, and it was the same guy that came back to replace it. They were very nice and professional.

When I called AHS, I had to wait up over an hour before somebody answers the phone, which was ridiculous. Nevertheless, the contractors who came out were prompt about contacting me and everything was excellent with them. The heater has been working since the repair. I would tell other people to be careful and make sure they know what's covered and what's not covered when dealing with AHS.

American Home Shield has done a couple of things for us. The contractor that fixed the refrigerator was excellent and the other companies we dealt with were fantastic. Then, when something went wrong with one of our AC units, we called AHS and they sent a group of people in. They said what was wrong then we went and checked, and they were right. They said that the part needed to fix it didn't exist anymore and that they were going to modify some stuff upstairs and charge me $1,100 add-on to whatever my fees would have been. It should have been covered except for our $75 deductible. I said that that didn't make sense so, I called two other HVAC companies. One was my friend and one I didn't know. They both came in and found the part within a couple of minutes.
When I passed that information to American Home Shield, they said they could only use the company that they have, but they could cut me a check for about a third of what the repair would cost. I told them that that was great and to go ahead with it. They got me about 1,100 bucks even though the part was right online, and I sent it to them. So do not use the HVAC company that AHS uses.
Then, the last claim we had was for our washer that stopped working which we submitted online and they took care of it. Within two days, they sent someone out. The contractor diagnosed the problem and fixed it immediately. They did exactly what I hoped for and everything has been perfect since the repair. Overall, we've been AHS members for too long just to drop them because of the one bad time we had.

My HVAC had a coil leak, so it was blowing cold air and would not shut off. So, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, and their representative was pretty good. They also got me a good rate on my new HVAC system. The contractor that they sent was also pretty good. In fact, it was installed in two days, so I didn’t have to wait. However, there was only one person, and he got here late. He had another brand-new install prior to us, so he arrived a little bit in the evening until about 1 o’clock in the morning to finish up. But other than that, he was an excellent technician. So, I think that it would be more practical if they had a team of two, so they won’t have to send one person out. It was freezing cold and dark, and I think that if they had a team of two, maybe they could have gotten the other installation, as well as my installation, done quicker.

I had several issues with appliances and the plumbing. But the biggest issue and the most important thing with American Home Shield was getting someone on the phone. The worst thing about this was that when I called, I was on the phone for 30 minutes, then somebody answered the call and I was put on hold again, then I got disconnected and the whole process started again. I had to wait an hour or more before I actually spoke to somebody on what was wrong. The last time I called and it took a long time to get through to someone, I did not wait anymore to speak to somebody.
But once I got someone to talk to at AHS, we've had good interactions. The reps listened to my problem with what was going on and they were not rude. Then they let me know that they’d send the technician out. Also, once AHS got somebody to come out, that person did what needed to be done. The contractors that they’ve sent out to do some work for me have been good. In one claim, the appointment was changed and the reps failed to relay this to the technician, but he still managed to call back and make the appointment and everything is still okay with what was repaired.
Not too long ago, I called about the stove. The AHS people were supposed to call and get back with me on Monday on whether or not they were able to get the parts for the stove, but I haven’t heard anything from them yet, so I cannot give them a very good rating. Actually, I’m thinking about changing to a home warranty with a lesser fee, as the monthly fee that AHS has been charging was high. Moreover, when I called them for a repair, the problem had to occur while the techs were there, and sometimes that didn't happen but they still charged us the $75 deductible.

The door on my dishwasher won't stay closed and I had four different companies sent by AHS down here working on it. The contractors were all nice but they couldn't fix the problem. The last guy who was out to work on it was here three times. He tried something but that didn't work. He came back and tried something else and that didn't work either. He called American Home Shield and he asked them if they wanted him to replace it or to try to repair it. AHS sent him some more parts and he came back and put them in but the dishwasher still didn't work. He said he couldn't do it anymore and that was all he could repair. The dishwasher is still not working and I'm waiting for American Home Shield now to figure out what is going on. They're going to replace it if there's nothing they can do to it.
I haven't had any bad experiences with AHS but it's just waiting for them to make up their mind if they want to replace something or not. When my water heater went out, AHS called somebody and he came out and fixed it. It's not the case with the dishwasher though. The dishwasher works fine if the door would stay closed. In order to use it, I'd have to stand there and hold the door closed so it won't pop open. Overall, I'd tell somebody to go ahead and try American Home Shield if they wanted it.

I've been with AHS for two years now. I called them to submit a claim for our reversible heat pump. It was more personable when I speak to somebody and the reps that I talked to were very polite. The contractors were very courteous, clean and tidy. The interactions with them were good. The first time they came out, they were fairly quick. But when they left, I had a problem. The fan started squealing badly to the point where it was getting ready to lock up, and so I turned it off. Then they came back out and checked it again. They fixed it, but then, it was louder than normal. So I asked them about that and they said that they couldn’t come out just because it was loud. They said it was because of the RPM. It was a newer motor than what they took off. But it’s working fine and I’ve got heat.
I will encourage others to try AHS. I was with their competitor for a while, and they’ve done well with me as well. But I switched because the AHS rates were a bit lower and more affordable for me. It’s good to have an extra policy for my appliances and if something happens in my home, I got that extra peace of mind. I can call somebody and they can come out and fix the problem. It's good and it helps that I don't have to pay this huge fee that most contractors want right up front.

I had very low pressure in my kitchen sink faucet and it was almost down to a drip but the other faucets in the bathrooms were running appropriately. I called AHS and I didn’t have any problems making the claim. It was fast and easy, and I like that I was able to receive an email confirmation when the technician was on the way. The tech was polite and explained thoroughly that he couldn't fix the faucet the first time because he didn’t have the right part and had to order it. Within the next couple of weeks, another appointment was set up and he fixed the faucet. It’s working much better than it was before I filed the claim. The only problem that I have is that I don't agree with having to pay the $100 deductible when I pay so much every month. I thought that my monthly fee would cover repairs. I don't know if having a plumber come out would have been cheaper because I pay so much every month and I pay a deductible on top.

When creating a new ticket and even checking the status, American Home Shield's website is really good. It's user friendly, too. I submitted a claim for my garage door and the contractors who came over were very good. I had to call them the second time because our heating system was not working as expected. They came and fixed it, and were very professional. Anybody who has come through American Home Shield has been great. They provide great service and that’s why I kept it and I am planning to keep it as long as I have this home. I always recommend American Home Shield to my friends and to whoever has a home. My oven shuts off by itself and the assigned contractor fixed it while we tried to clean it. And it was working when they left but the oven now started having the same problem. So they’re coming back to replace a part. And I’m also a little disappointed that they’re going to replace the part just to make it functional but they’re not going to match the part that I have. I have a white oven and they said they can only get a black one. I filed these claims online because the last time I tried to do it over the phone, I was on hold for more than an hour and a half and had to hang up. It’s a smoother process if I go online and the website is okay.

My heater in my basement was not heating the basement enough and it was basically blowing cold air. The tech that American Home Shield sent told me I had a heat pump and there was nothing wrong with the system, that it was the way the system is designed to work. I also had a problem with the air conditioning unit before as it was blowing hot hair. They came out and they changed something. I have filed claims online and on the phone. The navigation on their website is easy, while the phone does not take long and they treat me pretty well. Our experiences with the contractors have all been positive. It’s a pretty good deal if you just moved into a new home and that it’s a good idea to have a home warranty.

I'm glad I got American Home Shield. When my toilet wasn't working properly, I submitted a claim with them and the guy who came in assessed the situation. Then he replaced the defective part and it didn't take him 10 minutes to make the repair. There had been no problem with it ever since. I usually submit my claims to AHS over the phone and their representatives were always good and pretty accurate. Sometimes, it took a long time for them to take the call because everybody was calling all at one time and they were busy. But their service was worth the wait. The contractors they have sent were very professional, too. I had another issue with the garbage disposal and just like the plumbing issue, the contractor came in, assessed it, and replaced the part. He was in and out.

I’ve had to use AHS a few times. They did the air conditioner then the heater this past year. I had somebody come out to do my dryer too. Everything’s in great working condition now. AHS is good and they come out and fix the problem. I've had them for years and I have had no problems except getting through them and getting on hold forever. When I finally did get somebody one time, they gave me another number and that number works fabulously. It rings a couple of times and then I get through with an operator in about a minute. With their regular phone line that I call in, I had about a 20-minute wait. It was horrible. If they’re that busy that they need somebody to wait 20 minutes, that’s ridiculous. They should have a better answering service and have another number.
But when I get through a them, it’s fine and they're helpful. And after they get the information, they’re fast with fixing the object that has to be repaired. They solve the problem in a timely manner. I feel like I’m safer having AHS. If something goes wrong with my air conditioner, I have that to fall back on. It's just that prices kept going up now. I just got a new bill and the price went up.

Last year, AmTech came out to fix again my oven. The heat shield broke when the microwave was on clean and the guy ended up spreading broken glass all over our kitchen. He communicated relatively well. He was just extremely careless. I ended up cleaning it up too. In my last dealings with AmTech, I had called American Home Shield and requested them not to send AmTech again but they still did which was so annoying. I put a claim in on December 14th and very quickly, somebody was assigned. He showed up three days later and said he’d get back to us when the parts were in. Two weeks later I started calling for status and I got no response from AmTech. I called again and they didn’t know why it hasn’t been processed but they said they would have the manager contact American Home Shield. But every time I try to call American Home Shield, I have to wait on the phone an hour to unlimited amounts of time and I don't always have an hour.
One time, I wound up with the real estate division answering and they said they can't help me. They were just answering the phone because the other call center was closed because of a snow storm. Normally, the representatives are very cooperative and helpful. Things started changing when AHS lost two call centers in the hurricane and that was why it was all of a sudden the way it was, unendurable. That was what I heard. Prior to eight months ago when the hurricanes came in, I recommended AHS to everybody. I thought very highly of them as a company but not since my last experience. Waiting an hour on the phone is not a reasonable thing to ask people. Plus the hurricane was long enough ago that the wait shouldn’t be that long.

I typically submit my claims online. I fill in what the service is needed. Then, I will get an email back almost immediately, and they'll tell me when the company that's servicing will contact me. The last claim I had was for my refrigerator. Slowly, it would not dispense ice. Then it got worse where it wouldn't dispense at all. I have recommended AHS to several people. When I had to call them, their reps have been very good, prompt, and very courteous. I filed a claim with American Home Shield because my refrigerator was leaking. I guess a hose went bad. A gentleman came out and I had a very, very nice experience. He went to the basement, disconnected the water, which we had tried to do on our own. And had to order parts. He nicely called to reschedule and came back with the parts and got it running. He gave me some advice to make sure I depressurize the filter or turn off the water, so that it depressurizes to put the filter in, which I had never heard before so that was helpful.
The same gentleman fixed my dryer. It needed belt or something. The thing is 20 years old but it's miraculously repaired. I've also had him here for my refrigerator and my dishwasher. I really like him. He's very matter-of-factly. He brought in an apprentice one time and asked if that would be okay. He's very thorough. When for my dishwasher, he had a kid down there with him. He's like, "Are you sure?" I said, "I'm sure I don't mind. It's fine." I kept making sure that I was okay with the fact because I don't like a lot of different people in my home.
And then for the disposal it cost me with $100 deductible. All it was a little bit of food trapped in there so he just came in and unscrewed something. The guy couldn't have been here 30 seconds and left. It didn't really need any repair. And I still had to pay the $100. I submit a claim both online and over the phone because some of the categories don't go together.
The dishwasher guy couldn't fix the disposal. I thought that was kind of odd. Even though he does do that but not through Home Shield. He couldn't get that certification. The representative was very nice and very kind -- explained to me why that is. As a consumer I would try to get the most big thing for my buck. So I would want the disposal guy to the be dishwasher guy because it means one visit and one payment so it was disappointing.
But the contractor fixes the issue that he came for. And if he notices something else has got to be done like with the dryer he'll say, "You'll need this and that too so I'm going to reschedule. I'll come back. Let's get the parts and come back." Same with the refrigerator. I would tell a friend to definitely get AHS. I have two properties and I have it for both. I have had to use it at my condo in Wisconsin. I'm happy that I have it. I'm a single woman and it makes it as easier for me. Instead of being at the mercy of contractors that prey on single woman.

The technician said they couldn't fix it until they put certain parts in and American Home Shield won't let them. It was another week before they got everything in. We've got heat now but I asked for an invoice because I upgraded and I haven’t gotten all the information I want from these people who serviced me.

The guy that came out was very talkative but he was very polite and knowledgeable. He fixed the refrigerator really quick and then submitted the claim on the microwave 'cause there's nothing he can do about that. It would cost more to fix it than it would to replace it. I'd recommend AHS. It's been about seven or eight years that we've been using them or since we got the house. Without a warranty, it would be too expensive.

I’ve been paying for American Home Shield for about two years. I submit claims over the phone and it's easy. I recently made a claim when the ceiling fan and the light switch went dead. It was on the fridge, and the microwave plugged in the plug and they said it needed a separate plug. So, they fixed the light switch but they had to run a new line for the other one and they said that AHS didn't cover that. The repair went 100% as far as the light switch went, but as far as the fridge and the outlet going to it, it’s still the same because they said I needed another line. The reps were great and the contractor knew what he was doing. They did a great job overall.

Two outlets in the house were out, one in each bathroom and I tried to troubleshoot a little but it might have been a bigger thing that I don’t want to get involved with. So I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I usually call them but because it has been such a cold winter throughout most of the states, things have been happening, and call times have been longer so I decided to use the online for a change and it worked out well for me. Vlad of VLP Electric came out and he was the nicest person in the world. He did a great diagnostic on our house and the problem and told us what were the possibilities of why it didn’t function. Then, after it was repaired, he explained what he did and how we can alleviate this in the future. He was out of our house within 30 minutes and he did a fine job. I couldn’t ask for a better service than him.
We’ve used American Home Shield since ’92 for four houses that we’ve owned here in California. And each time we’ve had either the simplest thing or very complicated issues that were all resolved very nicely. That’s why we continued to use American Home Shield. And I have recommended them to friends. It’s worth using a company like this because we give a minimal amount and they’ll take care of it and make sure it’s fixed no matter what for that payment. Plus they have good people working for their company. It’s worth having that insurance that we pay for every year just in case of issues with a doorbell, electric garage door opener, outside lights, heating or air conditioning; the mechanical stuff. You never know when something’s gonna go wrong and something that could cost $3,000 is only gonna cost you $100.

I had a water heater that started leaking, and I went to American Home Shield website to file the claim. It asked for my address and what the problem was, and I clicked “water heater”. Then I got an email that tells me who the job had been assigned to, and then I can work with them on the scheduling when they were due to visit. That all worked and my interaction with the contractor went extremely well. He was courteous and he did a good job. However, getting an authorization, because the whole water heater had to be replaced, took longer than I expected. I called American Home Shield to find out why there was a delay. The water heater is fine now, although I have to turn up the temperature because they didn’t have it set high enough for my liking.

I've been with AHS for 17 years and I've never had a problem with them. I recently submitted a claim online when my washing machine wouldn't spin. That has always been easy for me to do and I never had an issue with submitting a claim from the stand point of doing it online. The contractors had to order a part which took about five days, then they called as soon as the part came in and scheduled the repair. Everything has been running fine since then. I'm also fixing to get AHS for my parents who are up in the age and retired. I'd be paying the warranty for them so they don't have to worry about some repairs. I know some of it would be pro-rated, but at least my parents would have something.

There are things that I don’t like about AHS. Number one is that I can't get exact or quality replacements when I always buy quality stuff. AHS did not replace my kitchen sink with what I had and so it doesn't work properly. The other thing is that I can’t seem to get the fireplace covered. The contract states is I put and install something in the house, it’s covered. But with the fireplace installed and in the house, it’s not covered.
The biggest thing is that I could not get a hold of AHS. There's no way to contact the office. I tried to call AHS for an hour and 20 minutes to submit a claim for my heat exchanger because I had some questions with it, but I was kept on hold forever so I filed online but there's no place to ask a question. Then AHS did not allow the service people to get a Lennox weeks ahead when I know Lennox was available. I am not totally dissatisfied with AHS since I just signed a new contract and added insurance to my appliances too. The service that I had from the local vendors have been great.

I had a leak in my water heater and American Home Shield got somebody to check it. I called AHS first and the rep I talked to was great. Then I had to give my signature for the paperwork online. The contractor was very informative and polite. He educated me to a lot of what was happening because I've never gone through this before. They bought a unit and brought it over and installed it. It was great service. Everybody was nice and everybody was right on it. Two contractors came to do the installation. They had the material they put on my carpet all the way up to the stairs so they wouldn’t hurt or damage my carpet. Also, they were very considerate of my walls and they never even got close to them. They were really careful with my place and that was really important to me. American Home Shield was great in every aspect and have done well with me and I would recommend them.

The thermostat in my heater needed to be replaced. Filing an online claim with American Home Shield for it was really easy. It was Friday night, and I got a call Saturday morning that they could come out. It was a really big shock since I didn't expect to hear anything from anybody. They said they would give me a callback within 24 business hours, which usually means the business day so I didn't expect to hear anything until Monday. The contractor was really nice and friendly. He called me to let me know he was coming, which is a big help since we work during the week. We also got a text before giving me a time when he was on the way. Then, the repairman showed up at the house, came in, fixed the problem, and made sure that it was working correctly.
I had an issue with another contractor and another appliance. The potential service person wasn't very good at handling callbacks, but they didn't call me back, so I called American Home Shield. AHS said that the contractor was not within the time frame of calling me back and that they'd get somebody else out here. When AHS got someone else to come out and the previous contractor called and asked me if they needed to come back, I said, "No, we have somebody else coming out." They said, "We can cancel," and I replied, "No, I don't want to cancel. You've been putting me off for two weeks." They said," We can come out today." I said, "I don't care. I'll pass. This person, I know they're coming." American Home Shield was really good about dealing with my issue. They asked if I wanted them to give the previous contractor another call or if I wanted to deal with one of them. I'd rather deal with somebody else and they were agreeable to that.
I have had to have somebody come out a total of three times, but the service was really excellent. If I have to make a claim on the same appliance within a certain amount of time, they won't charge me for it. They'll hold my fee for coming back out and I'll be able to get it fixed without having to pay any extra fees. They need to make it so that one can cancel an appointment online. Currently, if I set up an appointment for somebody to come out and look at an appliance, but then realize that it was just a loose hose or wire, I have to call in to cancel. We've had AHS since we bought the house and it is worth the money, especially with an older home. I've had to use them more recently than I did in the beginning since as my house got older, my appliances got older.

I blew a motor on my furnace on my heat and I submitted a claim to AHS online. The contractor they sent has been out before for other problems and I’m glad that they send the same one. The furnace was fixed in a matter of hours. He’s a great guy, he’s knowledgeable, he gets the job done, and explains to me what he’s doing. I would be happy to recommend American Home Shield to everybody. The only thing they need improvement on is when you are trying to call and get a hold of them verbally, person to person. The wait time is outrageous. In my opinion, they ought to do what a lot of companies do, a habit where you leave your name and number and they call you back instead of sitting on hold for 10 to 15 minutes.

When I had left the house in evacuation, I had windows opened and cracked and the air conditioner turned on. It was night time. So when I got back, the house was all smoky-smelling. My heater had been working before the fire but then when I got home a week later, the heater wasn’t working and I didn’t want to run the air conditioner because I didn’t know if it has been going off and on during the evacuation period. I called American Home Shield up and I didn’t know if anything was going on with the air conditioner but I didn’t want to turn it on but the heater, I had checked it December 1st and it was working and it wasn’t working. They sent out E & A Mechanical and they gave very good service. It turns out that the heater just need a couple of parts so I had to wait for those. And then they had to wait for me because I’m not home a lot but their service was very efficient.
American Home Shield only pay if it’s broken. It wasn’t broken it turned out but they paid for the examination. Then I have to pay $160 out of pocket for the Freon and then for cleaning all the coils and everything for me because of the Thomas Fire. My whole layout was $125 because I have high deductible for the service fee and then $160 to E & A Mechanical. I got everything fixed and checked for $285 so I was happy.
But in the beginning they told me I needed to pay $250, $125 for the heater and $125 for the air conditioner. I thought I did that online with them but evidently, I didn’t. Then I got a bill so then I called them up again and that person was very helpful. I have no complaints against them and like the idea of paying ahead before the service fee because then it’s out of the way and the technician they send out doesn’t have to deal with it. I use my charge card and pay it online. The second person I talked to caught it and said “No, you don’t have to pay two service fees. It’s the same companies and it’s the same unit. They’re all in one.” So she saved me a $125.
I love American Home Shield but it’s somehow pricey. I go back and forth every year thinking if I should I have it but I’m a single person by myself and I own my mobile home and I think everybody should bite the bullet and have it. You may not use it for two or three years but like in this case, that could have cost a lot more money. So I’m very happy with it. I would tell my friends about American Home Shield and would describe to them what it covers and what it doesn't. But I would recommend that people just take good care of their stuff and then just have AHS because the heating and air conditioning unit for mobile home, you’re probably looking at eight to $10,000 where I only pay $95 every two years with AHS.

My 15-year-old electric dryer was not working recently. The technician came, checked it and tried to repair it but it did not work. So he ordered a part and replaced the old one but still, it did not work. He said he had to go for some more replacement. I asked why not get a new piece instead of repairing it. They said that if it can be repaired, they have to repair it. I was not willing to take that because even though they repaired the unit with another part, it could break down again in a few months. I asked them the repair amount that they could offer me so that I would pay from my pocket and get a new one. They offered me a minimum amount and the remaining amount went around. It was resolved and I got a new dryer with my money.
I also had a refrigerator which was almost 15 years old. It broke down a couple of times earlier and AHS fixed it, but it could break down at any moment so I told them that I didn't want to wait for that to happen and wanted to go for a new one. They said that I couldn't do that unless it is broken and they couldn't offer any repair cost to anything. So, I went on my own and bought a new refrigerator. If I bought a $400 refrigerator and they had a policy that could offer me $250, that would be useful. Otherwise, repairing a very old refrigerator would cost us both.
Most of the time, their reps are good. The guys online are knowledgeable who talk in a proper way and address my issues. I had a second-floor heating issue during deep winter a few weeks ago. They understood that my family were there so they escalated the issue quickly, made the calls to different companies and arranged one company within a day. They fixed that issue and they were excellent. But the biggest concern is whenever I talk to them, I have to wait for almost 50 to 75 minutes. I don’t have that much time and patience to sit on the phone. I'm seriously thinking to drop from this company. Otherwise, I would have recommended them to my friends. I put in my request Friday night and the repair was finally done today. That's 4 days with turning the breaker on and off on the pump and water running down my wall. The wait times for service technicians is unacceptable and the wait times for a representative to answer a call is always an hour or more. Unless the problem is of the utmost simplicity expect some kind of snafu. The service companies being used are subpar and this stems from AHS being late paying (this feedback from a reputable company who had worked as a provider). AHS needs to shape up. They also need to add an email address to their "Contact Me" site.

They said they would send someone out to finish the repair. No one ever came back. Called AHS twice now and the contractor keeps telling AHS they fixed it. Today I called and now the contractor is saying they were confused as to what was left to do. Really? AHS should have called another vendor to get my repair work done asap. Hello, Lori. I apologize that this has not been taken care of on your behalf. Generally, the technician calls us to advise on how many holes were made and at what size they are. Sometimes, my experience with AHS is good. But nine times out of ten, it’s not. I’ve been with them for over 20 years because I have some rental properties and I’m too good of a customer for them to have me wait. I understand running a business and I know they have to be careful, but they should fix problems and not put a band-aid on them.
Sometimes, I get people out and they’d fix my problem. Other times, I have to wait for them to order a part. I could wait for weeks, especially with the air conditioner. We’re here in Texas and it’s hot. I just shudder when we’re in the summer because I know that if there’s an air conditioning problem, we would have to wait because they would have to order the part. I don’t know where they get their part or how long it takes, but when I call another AC guy and ask, I'm told they have the part and it's not a part that's hard to get.
I question why it's so hard for American Home Shield to get the part because it’s almost like they’re forcing me to find somebody else to fix the problem instead of using them. It’s like they’re dragging out the repairing part of it. And I’ve invested. I may go for years and not even call American Home Shield for a repair so they’re making money off of me and I feel that. I haven’t called them to come fix something in a couple of years but when I do, it needs to be fixed.
When I had a plumbing issue where the shower was dripping. A tech came in, didn't even look at anything then said, “American Home Shield is not going to honor this, but I can fix this for you.” It would cost me somewhere around $600 and it had to do with pressure. I told the person he didn't even look at what the issue was, was not even been here five minutes and was already making that statement. I called AHS and told them I was going to get a second opinion. I called another company, had them come in and check the water pressure. The guy told me I didn't have a problem there.
What happened was that the contractors, if they are not getting paid by American Home Shield, they are trying to make some money. I got hit with a $75 service fee but the technician didn’t fix anything. We are affected by the techs because they’ll come out and say something is not covered and we're stuck there with them. We end up asking if they could fix the problem instead and then we're paying what we shouldn’t have to pay. Having rental properties for over 30 years, I know what it costs to fix something.
I’ve talked to a lot of their techs and a lot of them leave because they say that AHS is slow and they don’t pay on time. I had an AC guy come out who used to work with them and he said AHS doesn't want them to fix the problem. They want the contractor to put band-aids on the problem and then if the contractor fixes it, they put them at the end of the line as a tech. If a tech is saying all those things, how does that not affect me as the customer? AHS needs to look at that. I was also in real estate with Ebby Halliday and I was told by them that they would no longer be recommending American Home Shield. That’s another thing that AHS needs to look at because there’s a reason for that. But I’m sticking with AHS because I’ve been with them for a long time.
We got summer coming up and I take very good care of my properties. I have good tenants too so there is not a lot of abuse going on with things. But we have an air conditioner and it’s getting old and it may need to be serviced. If the compressor goes out, then AHS should fix it. I paid enough in. Techs shouldn't come in and tell me they have to order a part and it’s a 100 degrees here. But those negative experiences aside, I had two instances where two technicians came over to fix a property, one was a plumber and one was an electrician. They both did a great job and I was very pleased with that. I hope AHS would keep them because they were professional and they knew what they were doing. As far as my experience in the past though, they were not that great.
I would like to thank you for being a customer of AHS for over 20 years. I most certainly understand your frustration with AHS and the delay in service you have experienced to have issues resolve but most importantly the delay when repairing AC issues.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years but that was the first time that I’ve used them that they actually came out and did the work. Because one time, I called them for my washing machine and the person never showed up. Then when I called back, AHS said they called the contractor who said I wasn’t here but that wasn't true. We have a great big living room on the first floor and we have a heat pump on that unit. That room was freezing cold and the heater was having a hard time keeping up. My furnace was making a really loud noise and the gas pipe that goes into the furnace was rattling real bad. It scared me. But come to find out, the way my furnace is set up, you slide the filter on the side. Apparently, one of the old filter pieces broke off from it and it got up in the fan. That was causing it to shake real bad. The contractor who came was professional. At first, he thought he was going to have to replace fan mode. But when he looked at it carefully, he saw a piece of paper sticking out the fan. And that's where the filter part came from. After he poured it out, it stopped. So, the guy was real good. If I ever have any problems, I would love for him to come back again. It was an easy repair and I paid $75 for it.
I've always had a good turnout except for one incident with the young guy that came in. I called AHS out because I had a leak in my tub area and in my sink. And the contractor, probably with same age as my daughter, was like, "Oh, this was put in the wrong way that's why it's leaking. This is not properly done." So, he wouldn't fix the leak and wanted to charge us $200 or $300 for it. That pissed me off 'cause why am I paying for insurance when it's not fixed and when I got problems. But other than that, I haven't had any issues. Since then, I've had both my bathrooms redone.
I’ve had AHS for years. I've been in this house now for 19 years. The owner bought the warranty when we first bought the house. After that, I was paying for it. And then, my husband cooked it up into our mortgage. And so, it's been without mortgage up until I paid the household. And since I paid the household, now, I'm paying for it out of my pocket. When submitting claims, the process is easy but I had to learn again because my husband who always prepared that passed away. I started online but I had a stroke, so I get confused when I read stuff. So, I just got the number and call them. I normally have to wait on hold, but it wasn't long. And I tell everybody about AHS. I told my brother's girlfriend who just bought a house, "You don't want to be in this house without this home warranty."

American Home Shield never covers anything. Contractors would, more often than not, come out and say one of two things. One, "That isn’t covered, but we’ll be happy to fix it for you for so and so number of dollars.” Or two, “Nothing’s wrong with it.” I usually submit claims over the phone and submitted one for our General Electric oven, which was not heating properly. The tech came out and said that the motherboard needed to be replaced. They replaced the motherboard but did not cure the problem. They came back out, tested the oven, and said everything was fine. It was not and never has been. The oven does not heat to the required temperature. In other words, I’m crazy, but they’re not. There has been a couple or three claims that I’ve had also had problems with. I have a side-by-side 7-feet ref and the freezer compartment was not working. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was fine and I got referred to a contractor right away. But the contractor said that they could not come out for four days and that was a little disappointing. When they came out, they said that the freezer needed some valve and they had to order it. It took a week for that valve to come in and when it did, I had them scheduled again. But the valve didn’t work so I had to call AHS again and a second contractor was able to fix it. The first contractors were professional and they did their best. But the second people knew what they were doing and were better. They identified that I needed a new compressor and it would've been a very costly repair if I did not have a home warranty so I'm thankful about that.
In the end, everything worked and I was happy. The performance of the freezer now is fantastic and it's like I have a new refrigerator. However, my claim was drawn out and I did not have a freezer for about eight weeks. That was a long time to get it resolved. Still, American Home Shield has been great and I would recommend them particularly to those buying a house that is as old as mine because things break. Ever since I bought the house in 2013, I've been using AHS. Their coverage is better than the other company that didn't cover my well pump, any parts of my above-ground pool and garbage disposal. And it took me about an hour to cancel with this other company. It was about $30 cheaper with them and American Home Shield is $75, which it went up about a year and a half ago. But Home Shield has been good with the problems I've had. And the contractors are good. They come in and work on the problem. They tell me what was wrong with it and say to give them a call again if I got any problems with it. They call me to tell me what day and what time they're coming. And they're usually on the time. It's usually about a three- or four-hour slot.
It’s just that sometimes when trying to reach AHS back, I’m on the phone for a while. And if I hang up and call them back, I start it all over again. But lately when I called in for the repair, they've been maybe three minutes at the most, and they pick up. It's improved quite a lot. I have a dishwasher that holds on heavy load, goes through the cycles and doesn’t move. They came out and put a part in. But about three days later, it goes the same thing. The first time, I had trouble getting a hold of Home Shield. They told me who to call. They said they'd call within 24 hours but the people repairing it didn't call within 24 hours.
And I called Home Shield back and had to wait on the phone about an hour to talk to somebody. And they said, "Well, it's 48 hours." I said, "That's not what you told me. You told me 24 hours." But they came out the next day. And that's when we thought they had it fixed. Then I had them back again. And this is the third trip coming back. The dishwasher is not that old. It's less than three years old. They'll be back tomorrow and I had to call them again.

AHS is good customer service-wise. My only concern is that the people or companies they are using don't have enough experience. A perfect example was when I had a water leak from the ceiling and I called it in. I asked them to find out where the water leak was coming from. The first guys said it was the grouting. But another guy came in and said it was a pipe leak. When I called AHS, I told them that it was a pipe leak and it should have been covered under the warranty.
But then the guy called and American Home Shield asked if he was sure it was a pipe leak because the previous guy said it's a grouting. The guy then said, "It might be a grouting then." Finally, I had to take care of everything by myself. It had been going on for three months. Also, when my heater was not working, I filed the claim over the phone and the customer service rep was very helpful. But the guy who came was kind of under-experienced because every time he needed to get something done, he was calling and asking what he should do or what was what. He didn't know what he was doing.
I wouldn't renew my service with AHS. I have the service with them because if something goes wrong, I need somebody taking care of it if not right away, at least next day or following day. But with my air conditioning that was not working, they told me that they would have someone there the next month. I asked what I was supposed to do with the whole three weeks, but they said that was all they had. The same thing happened to the heating. I would not recommend them.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have a leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

There was water gushing out of the furnace so I called American Home Shield. The problem was due to a humidifier that was on the furnace. The contractor said that it wasn’t covered because it wasn’t actually a part of the furnace. I just turned the humidifier off and it’s not functioning anymore. But when my stove broke and they couldn't find a part, they replaced it. They have been good in that department so I can't complain too much. I also had a dryer repaired and I can't believe that they spend so much money on parts as well as two or three visits rather than just replacing something. But it's working now.
My biggest concern is getting in touch with them via the phone. But when I finally get in touch with them their reps have been extremely polite, professional and helpful. I just got a card in the mail yesterday so I’m going to try and start submitting claims online so that I don’t have to be on hold for hours at a time. I renewed my plan for the year and I’m just wondering if I can cancel it at any time since my homeowner’s insurance would actually cover more than American Home Shield if I add a rider to it. I still think American Home Shield have done a good job. It’s just the communication part of it that’s difficult.

My toilets were running, so I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield, and I liked it a lot. It was very easy and was user-friendly. AHS was able to get a plumber out and take care of the problem. They contractor was nice, professional, and the toilets have been excellent since. I had a good experience with American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield regarding my water heater and a leaky pipe. I called them and they asked me if they would be contacting me. The contractor came out and took care of it very quickly. They were on time, they were very nice and they looked at two things I asked them to look at. The heater has been working fine since the repair. American Home Shield has done what I've asked them to do in a timely manner so it has been good. We have been satisfied with the service we’ve received and we have renewed our contract for this year.

The toilet in my downstairs guest bathroom didn't work correctly. My husband and I are 74 and 73 years old, and we don’t use a computer so we have to call directly and it takes over an hour to get through American Home Shield unless I call at 8:30 in the morning where I am on hold for about 15 minutes. I put up with it because if I need American Home Shield, then I don’t have any other choice. I understand most of the people in the world use the computer and the internet now, but there are still some older people that don’t.
The contractor who came for the plumbing issue scratched up the whole toilet with the stick that he used. The house is only four years old and I was upset so I called American Home Shield and they sent him again to fix the scratches. It's okay now, maybe 95%. People have been here before from American Home Shield. When I ended up with water damage coming down the walls, I called American Home Shield and they fixed it. They also came to fix the bathroom in the master’s bedroom. I have no problem at all with American Home Shield and I will continue to use them. And if the company came to anything about the amount of time that we stay on the line, I would be immensely grateful. I’m very happy and I’ll continue to renew my contract.

American Home Shield's contractors came out twice and worked on our plugged shower drain. They got it somewhat relieved and it still is not perfect but it wasn't their fault. They couldn’t get a snake to go through a certain part of the drain. They left us with some stuff to pour down the drain. They poured half of it down and we’re working on the other half to see if it will finally clear it out before we call again.
I’m a realtor, and I deal with AHS all the time. And I submit claims both online and over the phone. Their website is fine and I've been very pleased with the quick response. We loved the guys who came twice. And the AHS contractors have been really good. Once, when we had had below zero temperatures and there were people with frozen pipes all over, the contractors called and asked if they could come at 7 o’clock at night. And they had been working all day and hadn’t even eaten. I wish AHS has local vendors. Most of ours come out of Wichita and I’m in business in Hutchinson, and I hate to have a Wichita truck in my driveway. But I recommend AHS all the time. It’s a good company.

I call and then leave a message when submitting a claim with American Home Shield. My husband did it online for the electrical problem and it has been resolved. For our claim on the furnace, they replaced the whole thing and I was very pleased with the service. AHS always sent out the same company and they have been wonderful. We've had good experiences with American Home Shield and if you're buying an older home, I'd recommend them.

I have AHS for four years now and so far, my experience with them has been pretty straightforward every time.

Something went wrong with my heater and it wouldn’t cut off. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. This time I just went online to submit it. I tried to do it over the phone and they put me on hold forever. And the time before that, I did submit a claim and it took me two hours on the phone to get through. And when I got through the first time after an hour, they hung up on me. And so, I called them back, waited another hour, and finally got some results.
Recently, the contractors AHS sent have been okay. I’ve had no issues with them. The time before the claim with the heater, it was the air conditioner and they fixed a fan to the condenser. And then last time with the heater, the contractor diagnosed it and had to special order a part. Then they came back in a week after they got the part and repaired it. It was okay. It didn’t cost that much. I paid $75 and got the thing fixed. I could’ve got it fixed by somebody else, but it would’ve cost me a lot more. So, I just waited the week. The good thing was that it didn’t get real cold so we were lucky that when it did go out, it wasn’t that bad.
AHS is good for people. It helped me out and they fixed whatever was wrong. However, I had an issue with them last year. My refrigerator wasn’t under warranty so I called to add my refrigerator and they said there was an open window around March, I would have to call back. So I called back on March and had them added my refrigerator. So last year when my refrigerator went out, I called them. They said I never did call. That was just odd to me that I added my refrigerator and then they said that I didn’t. They couldn't help me so I had to buy a new refrigerator. I was going to cancel it at that time, but I didn’t. And I'm glad I didn’t because that saved me some money with the air conditioner issue.

I noticed our tub was leaking. The contractor American Home Shield sent came out and looked and changed something. They said that I needed to re-caulk the tub a little bit and I haven’t finished redoing that. And they went on and off and cleaned. I guess I had some slow drainage on some other sinks. I recently just bought this house about a year ago so that’s where I ended up with American Home Shield and they resolved my slow drainage stuff.
But it takes forever to get them on the phone and then you wait forever when you’re on hold waiting to talk to somebody. It can be 20 minutes or 30 minute. Sometimes you’re just sitting there and just waiting and waiting. But the reps were friendly. The contractors were fine. They were much better than the first ones that I had. I had another plumbing issue earlier in the last year and those people I actually requested that I did not want them back. I wanted somebody else.
The people itself weren’t very efficient, and they tell me it’s going to be this and that and they would turn around and I would have to wait. There was this part that they needed and it took two weeks for them to get this part. But I get along with them really well, it’s just that the experience with them was terrible. That was the deal with them. My contract with AHS ends in November and I’m probably not going to renew with them because of my ceiling fan issue.
I signed up and extended my thing for another year after the first year because we talked about stuff and they said “Yeah, we will replace with the same thing and equivalent of what you have” or whatever if something breaks. My ceiling fans are not most top of the line but they’re not the most basic ceiling fans, neither. I had issues, an electrician came out and said “Oh, I think that’s the receivers in there and they need to be replaced but they’re not under warranty for the manufacturer," or whatever.
And so, “Well, I can replace it but it’s a very basic ceiling fan.” And I’m talking about “basic” basic. Like a white, basic fan. And I’m like “Well, my ceiling fan is not the white, basic fan here and that’s not the equivalent of what I have.” And American Home Shield says, “Well you can deny it and we can give you $75 bucks.” Well, $75 bucks is not going to pay for my ceiling fan, either. If they’re only going to give me $75, okay, that’s fine. I’ll go with that, I’ll take $75. I’ll pay the extra for the rest of the ceiling fan. Give me the $75, let me go buy the same thing with it and have your contractor come back out and at least install it.
Because if I would have said, “Oh yeah, I installed the cheap one,” they would install the cheap one in and I wouldn’t have gotten charged an extra labor charge. They’re saying, “Well, if you take the $75 you got to go buy your own ceiling fan then you’d have to pay to have someone install it." I told them to send the $75 and I took care of it on my own. I ended up looking on the internet to see how to replace it and how to do it but then they said, “If you want your new ceiling fans under warranty, you have to have it professionally installed and send us the receipts saying that you did it and then we’re warrantying them again.” I’m like “If I just put it in myself and those ceiling fans won’t be under warranty.” I got a refrigerator in the garage and I said “Oh, if you want to add that refrigerator." They said it’ll be $15 more to my plan and if it ever breaks down they will replace it with the equivalent of what I have.
I’m thinking now, the equivalent of the ceiling fan wasn’t the same one they were going to give me and the one in the garage wasn’t anything fancy or nothing like that but what are they going to give me like this little bitty box on the floor? The equivalent is not the equivalent is what I see. They got stuff fixed but I’m not happy totally with them. At this time I would say don’t go with them. I wouldn’t. Go for them if it’s minor stuff. But if you’re going to have any refrigerators, stoves, or electronics of any sort or ceiling fans I would not think about using them for that.

I used to be a realtor so I've always had American Home Shield. And they were recommended by a realtor in town so they're the best one. We've been in the house for 12 years and they've been really good. One time, there was a horrible noise in the washing machine. I submitted the claim online and the site was easy to navigate. The problem with American Home Shield is you can't get through to them if there is any change. They always say they're busy, and that's absolutely horrible. I'd love to see them do what some banks do where you put in your call and then somebody calls you back when they're free. I waited almost an hour one time because they hadn't fixed it properly on another item and I had to have them come back.
I finally got somebody in the billing department so that was helpful. She happened to be a customer service rep, but that was the only way to get through. The contractor was excellent and they were able to fix everything. They showed up when they said they would. One guy had to come back because it didn't get fixed the whole way, but that was fine too. I've been very pleased overall and I've recommended American Home Shield to people selling their house to have them covered so they don't have problems during escrow.

I submitted a claim online recently with American Home Shield and their website was good although it was a little tricky as far as the service is. When picking a service, when you check one all the rest of them go away so you pick one service at a time when you start. If I needed two things I had to put in two orders. The most recent claim was for my heating service and the contractors came out explaining to me exactly what was going on and fixed the problem. Things has been working fine since the repair.
American Home Shield did a great job. They always answer the phone if I had any calls and keep me up-to-date on the status of my order and comes out right away as soon as I need them. It’s great to have American Home Shield and always good to have a back-up for the cost of repairs in keeping up the house. There’s a lot to spend and having the insurance behind is a great deal.

I didn’t appreciate the way that we were treated by American Home Shield the first time. Constantly on the phone, unable to make contact on the phone, on hold forever, and then didn’t answer my emails. When the bathtub didn’t work, the guy came and fixed it. I paid him $75 and we never heard from him again. But American Home Shield cashed the $75 check. I haven’t had real good experience with American Home Shield. My tub is still broken. I had no problem with the guy that they sent out here. I just had a problem with American Home Shield and their customer service.
During the second time, our dryer was making a lot of noise and the roller had gone out. And then the guy came, fixed it and he was gone. Two days later, the heating element went out, and then he came and fixed it again. But I just didn’t feel like making a phone call the second time, so my husband did it. I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield to anybody else. And I’m trying to get my husband desperately to change to something else. Overall, American Home Shield needs to work on their customer service.

I had to call American Home Shield again because they’ve been emailing and sending me a letter which I understood already before but the one thing that I want them to pay attention is that my water heater needs some attention. And they’ve been telling me “No, your faucet is not included in your claim.” I said that I am done with that.
Somebody came over just for plumbing and then they did some adjustment but the faucet is still leaking. I understand that the faucet is not part of the claim but I said, “I have another item that has been checked with this plumbing company and up to now, it’s been a matter of two weeks to three weeks now that they haven’t gotten back to me." I called them already one time and I said, “I understand about the process. I’m not talking about the faucet now. I’m talking about the water heater.” And they said, “We’ll call the plumber and ask them what was done on the water heater.” So up to now I haven’t received anything yet.
The contractor apparently will not contact me, not until American Home Shield talked to them. And I’m waiting for American Home Shield to let me know that they have contacted the plumber and then they’re going to discuss about the water heater. So I’m planning to call American Home Shield again to touch base with them about the water heater claim that I have.
They sent contractors here twice. I did two claims with them. With the dryer claim as soon as they called in, somebody came and looked at the dryer and then after some days they came back and put different thermostat but I noticed that the dryer was not drying the clothes at one time. We had to rerun it. So I called them again and they sent the appliance people again and they looked at it and said that the dryer is working fine. But up to this time we have to rerun the dryer again to complete the drying of the clothes. Also we’ve been with them for a long time and the price is really getting exceedingly high now. We started with 49, now it’s 75.

On a Saturday, I noticed a problem with the heat pump downstairs. It was fixed the following Tuesday. Air Medics came. They’re the heating and air conditioning people. They’re always on time. They know what’s going on with the system and fix it easily. The only time I ever had to actually wait for a couple of days to get it completed was when they came and diagnosed it. It was for the upstairs about two or three years ago and they had to order a major part that they didn’t have in stock. And it took about three days to get in. But, as soon as they got it in, they got installed and everything was working fine.
And when submitting a claim, I always do it over the phone and the representatives are always very helpful. They're polite and try to work with me and get the contractor that I want to use. I like to talk to a live person when I call for a problem because, that way, I can get Air Medics to come work on my system because they’re the people that maintained it anyway and they’re already familiar with it. Other than that, I wouldn’t have a problem doing the claim submission online. If I don’t talk to a live person, then I can’t ask for a particular contractor. I recommend AHS. All of the contractors I’ve ever had have been professional and knew what they were doing and the cost was not unreasonable.

We smelled something burning from the heater so we turned it off and then we submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. We had to get the part that sticks the heat and then we had to get an electrician to come and fix the emergency switch for the heater. However, the first guy that American Home Shield sent couldn’t do both jobs so we had to wait for the electrician. Hopefully, next time, American Home Shield just send one person to fix both items and I won’t have to wait.
It took about a month to get the issue fixed. But the process could be a little bit shorter. When you don’t have heat, everything is crucial. We shouldn’t have to wait so long to get service done when something is an emergency. And I know they have to reach out to the contractors but then that’s a whole other 24 to 72 hours. Plus, it snowed and it just made it longer than normal. But the heater is working fine now.

Our Kenmore dishwasher stopped working right after Christmas dinner. Has been in contact since then. They have assigned an appliance company, they have already changed 3 different parts, 4 different visits. Over 50 calls to set up appointments. Today the technician visited again and after changing 2 new parts states it is still not work and he has to order another piece. So I will be without dishwasher for another few weeks and it is not even sure this new piece will work. Looks like I am being put in a position where I will have no choice than buying a new unit on my own. This is exactly what torture is. This is taking a toll emotionally on me. The appliance company is not reachable easily either. It takes forever to get them here. How much patience AHS wants from customers? Meanwhile appliance company is charging also AHS for their time.
Also AHS has to pay for all these parts so basically AHS prefers all these costs and also torturing customer by the contractors until customer gives up and says they do not want the pain anymore and have to replace a unit on their own. "Wrong" This is "Wrong". Why bother warranty for appliances when it is clear that the game is to disappoint you. They even do not care about who they send, because it is so difficult to get to talk to anyone at this contractor. I just called AHS and asked to talk to manager. The operator has to submit a form and I have to wait for someone to call back until tomorrow.
I am not being unreasonable, at least I think so. I am thinking that dishes I can hand wash for over month and half, if this was let's say refrigerator or cloth washer then what! There is no way that one can be out of appliance for this long. There should be some time limit on how long AHS and contractor can drag this. Or at least how many pieces and how many visits can be done with no results. AHS should stand behind what they sell and help customer resolve the issues as reasonable as possible in a timely manner.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your dishwasher repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience as soon as possible.

We suddenly had pipe leaks under our house. This was on a Saturday. We immediately put in a request online for service on the American Home Shield website. Because it was a Saturday there would be no response until Monday. Our request was forwarded to the local plumbing company. When we contacted that local plumbing company they said they were not able to send someone out until the end of February. It's February 6th so that is not acceptable. We called AHS and they said that another company would contact us.
Mind you, we have mentioned that we feel this is an emergency because we have no hot and cold running water. We are not happy with the way we are being treated by both AHS and our local plumbing companies. We feel that the local plumbing company just does not want to deal with our problem because it is a home warranty situation. We feel that they probably lose money on home warranty calls so they are not going to give them priority no matter if the problem is an emergency.

He was good but then he didn’t have the second element that he needed so I had to wait another day and I had to wake up early again. So we did not have hot water from Sunday to Wednesday. It's a 2005 heater so the parts are getting harder to find. But, it saved the company a lot of money that he could fix it because, otherwise, they would have to replace it. Since the repair, the heater has been very good -- it is scalding hot. Being that I couldn't get service the same day, that didn’t satisfy me too much. Also, they were fine, very polite and clean, and did exactly what they’re supposed to do. The flapper valve in the toilet was impossible to operate and test. It was very hard and sticky and we broke the knob at one point. However, the selections are fairly generic and can't go into detail. I clicked the box that says faucet or the box that says toilet but it doesn't ask what's wrong with it. The toilet handle could be broken or it's the wax ring that is leaking, which are two different jobs for a plumbing guy, and he's not going to know that based on what's submitted on the website. Other than that, the contractor who came out was great. Now, taking a shower is a lot easier and enjoyable and the fixed toilet saves water. Also, on the first call that I put in for the kitchen faucet, the plumber told me that the cartridge to fix the faucet was $85. I paid $75, so it was a good deal. This was the first time it took so long to get the call in and then it took exactly two days before anybody called me. That should have been done within 24 hours. If I call at 8:00, I would like to know something at 5:00 so I can fix my schedule to work. But I know it had a lot to do with the ice freeze in Houston and a lot of pipes probably eroded. The heater is now working well.
I also had some plumbing issues and AHS sent someone. They had to go outside the wall and fix it from the wall. They did a very minimal fix in the hole that they had created. They didn't bring it back up to the standard or how it looked before. They have put one layer of drywall on it but it takes three layers so I had to pay to have the other two layers put on and have it painted. That's the only complaint I have about them. I’m up for renewal and I was really having a hard time with renewing because I have another home warranty on the property that I live in. AHS is for our rental property and I'm contemplating whether I'm going to renew it because they’re going to have to do something for me. I’m just not satisfied with that situation.
On the other hand, the contractors were great. They did their part, they repaired the garage. The last gentleman who came out was excellent. He did everything professionally, fixed it the same day, and was very nice to work with. The only problem is not being covered by AHS in the same part twice. I would tell my friends about that experience. I would tell them too that there are times where the warranty has covered me and has done repairs where I only had to pay the deductible. But I would warn them to read the fine print because there are some things that are not covered with a home warranty and it can be misleading.

I tell everyone about American Home Shield, especially whenever someone is going to get a warranty. I've had a good experience with them. My faucet was leaking and I submitted a claim online. The contractor they sent was good, quick and professional. He called me and asked me what brand the leaking faucet was and if I could take a picture of it and send it to him. That way, it would make it easier for him so he wouldn’t have to come back a second time, which was great because time is important. I did that and it made everything quicker when he got here. He did a great job.

We had a claim on multiple appliances recently and it was pretty painless when I called in the claims to American Home Shield. They answered it pretty quickly, and their reps were very helpful and just got right to the point. The guys that they sent were great. They keep getting younger but they’re getting knowledgeable. We got a dishwasher and we’re babying it because I like it. We’re trying to hold ourselves right, but it is wearing out. The repairman tried to fix it but he didn’t quite get it done. But he looked it over, and he was willing to help. Then I called AHS because the dryer wasn’t heating. The repairman came but we had to call AHS back so in the meantime, he asked me if I had any other appliances that needed checking. I told him that my refrigerator had a broken shelf, and I appreciated that AHS covered it when I called it in. I loved it.
So I got all three things for the same deductible, which was amazing. I saved up a huge value. Since the repair, the appliances are good so far. It’s a good service but they need to hire more girls. I've recommended AHS and two people have bought it. It’s $49 a month, and people pay for insurance. That amount is budgetable and it is not a bit chunk of change.

We had some pipes that exploded and we've had some washer issues. I submitted a claim online, which I like to use since I don't have to talk to one of reps from American Home Shield. And submitting online is usually the easiest way. Things get sketchy when I have to talk to somebody. We had an issue where we were out of water and the plumber was there and he was prepared to fix two separate problems that were related. We didn't know about the other problem and it was keeping us from getting our water on.
The only reason why we didn't call the first time and tell them about the second problem was that we didn't know it existed until they came out for the first problem. So American Home Shield wouldn't authorize the fixing of the second problem without going through the process of a whole other set of paperwork. We got really upset. The plumber can fix it while he was here and we can have water. But instead, they made us argue and yell at them and everybody was unhappy. It was uncalled for. We even told them that we don't mind paying the extra fee to fix the problem at that time. But the problem ended up not being fixed, which should have been fixed from the get-go.
I ended up filing another claim and they made a big deal about it. We had to wait for 48 hours to file a new claim, let the plumber fix the one problem that we first filed a claim for, and we still had no water. He would have to leave, come back in 48 hours to fix the other part and then we would get to have water. American Home Shield is a necessary service but sometimes it's a pain.

I've had issues with the people American Home Shield has sent me, but it has been better than it was before. My water heater wasn't lighting and I submitted the claim over the phone. My girlfriend said that the kid who came was really nice. It was a simple fix. He just cleaned underneath my water heater and was done in 10 minutes. The first time a plumber who came out to my house was super lazy and arrived late at night. He had to come back a couple of times to fix the issue. I didn't care at that point, as long as it was fixed. When my drain was clogged, AHS didn't have anyone available before 48 hours so I had to call someone else. There have been times when I've been put on hold for 30 minutes, but getting AHS is not a bad deal. I get most of the stuff extra cheaper than what it's going to cost to get things fixed. I would recommend them since it’s a smart choice to have, unless you have a crazy amount of money laying around.

We filed a plumbing claim over the disposal to American Home Shield via the phone. The rep we spoke to was good, and the contractor knew what he was doing. I told him I had an odd size disposal. I told him upfront what size I had and he brought the right one. Otherwise, he would have come out and had to go back to get another and then come back. So, that worked out well. That was the second time I've used the company. The first experience was over our washing machine that went out, and it was a little rough as the contractor they sent was not good - he did not know what he was doing and was back and forth. I ended up taking the cash and just bought what we wanted, but it took us a while to get through that first deal. It was too complicated for them trying to figure out what we could get because they did not have the exact washer that we needed or wanted.

I called American Home Shield for my water heater, and the rep asked me what was wrong. He was friendly and got right on it. They said they were going to have a company come out and see what was going on with it. They thought it was a little slow leak. We noticed it when we came home. A little paint that sits on it was starting to fill up. When my husband came home, he realized it was leaking. He thought that the water heater was going out. But we weren’t sure. We also thought something was just loose. But when the guy came and inspected it, he said it would need to be replaced. It took a week or so before he came back to replace it. He was great though. He said it would take about two or three hours to replace it but he did it less than that.
Everything’s fine. The only problem I have is he probably turned it down, and partly we turned it up just a notch. I have two bathrooms. The water gets hot in one of them, and then in the other one, the water gets hot but it doesn’t stay hot that long. Nevertheless, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to a couple of people and family members have already signed up. I tell them it’s a great service. Without a home warranty, if something breaks down you got to pay out of pocket one time. It gets costly and expensive so might as well just go and pay the monthly fees with American Home Shield. Some people would say that’s not really worth it. But I had a problem with my air-conditioning unit and the contractor came out and fixed it. If you have the money saved up then you don’t have to worry about getting it done. But when you look at $1,200 to get something done one time, it's costly.

I most recently had to submit a claim to American Home Shield because the air conditioner was not catching up with the heat and submitting was good but most of the time, I have a wait call. During the weekend or afternoon, it's very hard to talk to a rep because of the prolonged wait but I don't have any problem during the weekday around morning and the noon. And the reps are very helping. They listen and they find the company right away who can work on it. The contractors are also very good. The experience has been excellent and I'm very satisfied.

We weren't getting an even distribution of the heat throughout the house. I wanted to find out what the problem on that was and if the duct work for cleaning was covered by American Home Shield so I filed a claim through their website. Unfortunately, it's not something that's covered by the AHS contract. Hopefully, I don't have to use AHS very often. But as far as filing a claim through the website, they were responsive. They're also affordable and I would recommend them.

I called AHS because my dryer wasn't heating up. I had to go through the automated system, which I’m not a big fan of since it only tells you that they'll be sending someone out and doesn’t give you the option to give details. Unlike when you’re on the phone with somebody, they give you the actual phone number to the people that are going to be calling you in case they don’t call you. But it's still better than doing it online. The guy who then came out was really nice. He told me that the vents just needed to be cleaned. I recommend American Home Shield a lot to people especially when they’re buying a house so that things are covered.

Our toilet was stopped up. My grandchild put something down inside it. My grandson submitted a claim online because we had a hard time getting through it by telephone. If it wasn't because him, it would take me forever to get through. That's what I don't like about it. The website was fine as well. The contractor called me the first day that night and the next day, he was there. I liked him and he was very nice. Also, he's very professional. He went down the drain and snaked out something from the toilet. Having a warranty on my property is very good because if something breaks down, they fix it. But I have one problem. I had a furnace replaced a couple of years ago, 2015, and I ended up paying almost $15,000 for it. I checked around and I could've got it a whole lot cheaper. The furnace was almost 20 years old. So they replaced the furnace and the outside air conditioning unit, but they put it on time.

American Home Shield has been working with us great. I first started calling in to make claims and then one of the young ladies told me I could easily do it on the website. I started doing that and they contacted me right back as soon as I put my claim in. I gave them details and that was it. I like the website because I don't have to wait to be connected. I just go to the website and punch my problem in. The site is not difficult to navigate too. When we called them because something began to tear up, they had someone out the next 24 hours looking at it.
Their contractors have been friendly too. They ask questions, go from the problem, and check and make sure. All of them fixed exactly what was wrong and they made sure that nothing else could activate that problem. Their repairs saved me a lot of money. AHS is a really good company and experience that I had with them, I wouldn't change anything for the world. I don't have to go to my insurance company every time something needs to be fixed. I can just go to AHS and get it done at a cheaper price instead of paying a deductible. You can't beat that.

American Home Shield has the automated system when submitting claims, which is good. It's really not that hard to do it whether via telephone or online. Both seem to get you the same solution in the same amount of time. It works and it's effective. The last time I submitted a claim was when our pool pump was leaking. The seals were coming loose and they needed to be refitted and retightened. They sent a gentleman out that did the work. They worked and that was good. They were pretty responsive.
I've had AHS for two or three years and I'm satisfied with them. I've only had one issue with them where I had to submit a Better Business Bureau complaint because I felt that I was getting the runaround and it never ended up getting resolved in my favor. I felt that I was in the right, and I still do, but nothing was resolved. I would think anybody would be unhappy with that. But other than that, they’ve been stellar.

The furnace guys were clean and were worried about getting dirt on my carpet. Also, they didn't talk down to me and I was treated awesome. It wasn’t the first time that they were here. I trusted them and they took care of the issue. They were amazing, quick and efficient.
But what wasn't fine was calling in AHS and trying to find out why I was getting emails telling me that I needed to give $75 to American Home Shield when I gave it to the contractor that came out. So I called and the first person I talked to wasn't very nice to me. He told me I needed to read my contract and that the things have changed. He hung up on me. Then when I called back, I got a lady who was really nice. She told me that they have called each contractor and found out that they did have the money and that they fixed it. Another thing that I mentioned with the first guy I spoke to was that I was still getting emails from AHS saying my plan was getting ready to expire. However, I already made an arrangement to pay the payment on it. Another lady stepped in and it went fine.

It’s my luck this year out of 15 years that I had a problem with American Home Shield. On December 31st I called for emergency, heating pump first. And then soon after that I found out from the tenant that there was a water leakage in my property. I called back and then I reported that also on the same day. From then, it went downhill. The United Air Temp people came in. The guy who came in to fix the valve where it was leaking said he didn’t have the part. The next day was a holiday, January 1st, and he was going to come back on the 2nd. By Tuesday, he couldn’t make it because he said that they didn’t give him an appointment. I’ve been calling American Home Shield every single day, maybe twice a day, which I was also irritated with because each phone call to get through American Home Shield took about an hour and a half to two hours.
By Tuesday my homeowners association came in and shut down the water because it was causing a lot of damage to the two units below me. So, I called and reported that to American Home Shield. They sent United Air again on Wednesday. When the guy arrived, he said it was not replaceable. At that time United Air sent me an email saying, “This is not repairable. It needs to be replaced.”
I called them back again, and I said, “Listen. This is an emergency. It’s causing a lot of issues. The two units below me are severely damaged. I need someone ASAP.” The weather was in a single digit. The people at my unit had a dual function, so when they shut down, not only did they not have heat during that cold time, but also, they did not have hot water going into the property. They had an infant in the property and I reported that to them. I also told American Home Shield that I would take out a cash option because when I called United Air, they said it might take three to five days depending if they had the part. I told them I didn't have that time.
When the homeowners association people reached out to me about the shutdown, someone had somebody else there that could come in the next day and be able to repair it. I specifically called American Home Shield and said, “Give me the cash out option because this has to be fixed ASAP. I cannot have any more damage to the property. We’re still not addressing the heating pump.” They said no and that they still had to send someone out for verification. They said they were not going to pay me if I had somebody else touch it. I had called every single day after that wanting to talk to the manager. For the last two weeks, it was a headache between calling United Air and American Home Shield. And I had been saying, “Get me a manager.” They would tell me, “We don’t have a manager available. Someone will call you within 24 to 48 hours.”
What really frustrated me about this whole thing was my heating pump took two weeks to be delivered and to be replaced. It was reported on the 31st. They came and fixed it on the 12th because they said the part had to be ordered. If there is an emergency, they should assist. I specifically told them if United Air could not do it, they should send me another person.
With the washing machine, I ended up having to take $200 because one company came in and touched it and didn’t put it back together. They said it was too much work and they couldn't deal with it. So, they had to send another company. That company came in and said they could not touch it because somebody else didn’t put it together. And then they sent it over to another people to put it in. A third company had to come and verify. I had to go through the ordering and everything for a whole month. I paid my $200 for the renters because someone did not know who they were sending. If they couldn't handle the job, they should not have been sent to begin with.
Our washing machine took one month to be replaced and this was with the same tenant. Now, for the month of January, they refused to pay. They only paid half of the rent. I’m left with a tenant who doesn’t want to pay me for their rent and with the damage of two units below me. And that’s not fair for me. That assistant should’ve been there to have someone to just give me the cash out options. I needed to do what I needed to do to resolve a lot of the issues. Now, this is going to end up in a court, because they don’t want to pay. Not only am I left with the damage and everything, but I have a tenant who wants to sue me because this was not resolved in a timely manner.
Hiwoto, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

The pull-out faucet in our kitchen was leaking so I called AHS and submitted a claim. They then sent a contractor the next day and he was wonderful. He did something in our bathroom a year before and was the one who put the faucet in for me. I showed him all the things under the sink and he said, "Let me just try." He went and checked the faucet, tightened it and now, it's perfect and not leaking.
I've been happy with AHS. I had recommended them to my children because the good thing that about them is that I don’t have to look and find a plumber or whoever. They have somebody ready. The only thing is that they seem to have a different way of billing now. I've always paid a year in advance but this time, I didn't. Usually, all I do is take care of the visit right here but now, the contractor would take the bill back to the company and then they submit it to AHS.

I always tell everybody that they should get American Home Shield because it's way cheaper to carry that insurance than to go out and buy one appliance. Recently, I filed a claim for my washing machine over the phone. The drum broke and fell down. The representative, who was very nice, wrote it down and sent somebody out here. When the contractor came, he called and got here on time. He got the stuff done and then he was gone. They sent out a local contractor so I didn't have to wait for two weeks. And since the washer would cost more to repair than to replace it, they bought me a new one. And it didn't take long at all. Once they found the contractor couldn't repair it, I called them the following Monday and I bought a new one and sent the receipt in, and I already got my check for it.

We woke up one morning and the temperature was 50 degrees in the house. The furnace wasn’t working and that was right when the cold snap started. My husband put the claim in online and then he called to make sure it was in the queue. It was only 7:30 when Jerry called us to set up a time to come. He’s done other work for us so we were acquainted with him. He tried a couple of things to fix the furnace but it didn’t work. It wouldn’t stay on for long periods of time. It would kick off, and then all of a sudden, it would come on and we would have the space heaters on then. It was interesting.
We finally had to bite the bullet and go with a new furnace. But they couldn’t get the furnace as quickly as it would have been prudent for us. The problem happened the week before New Year’s Day, on Tuesday and Jerry ordered it by Thursday. We were hoping that it would be here on the following Tuesday but it didn’t come until the following week after that. But we survived. Between the furnace intermittently working and the space heaters that we had, it was okay as long as it didn’t get to be really cold, which for the most part, it was really cold. But it worked out fine. We’re really happy with the furnace we have. We had to spend some money but American Home Shield took care of the majority of it. We were also real pleased with Jerry's work.
I just wish American Home Shield would cover checking out the furnace in the seasons, like checking the air conditioner in the spring and then the furnace in the fall. That would be nice because there were plenty of years that we didn’t have any claims. This was the first claim we had for maybe six years. Other than that, we’ve been very pleased with their service and we’ve had American Home Shield for 20 years between the different houses.

I have insurance for when my big appliances go down, like the washer, dryer, and fridge. Over the last few years, American Home Shield's service fee has gone up sky high which I’m not happy about but I’m going to keep going with it for this year and I’ll see next year whether I want to continue with that. When I first started with them, it was 50 dollars per service call which made it really worthwhile to call them when I had stuff to do because it was a lot cheaper than getting anybody else in to repair. But now, the service call is 75 dollars and that’s a lot. Still, I would tell others about them. The older your appliances, the more you’re going to need them.
The last claim I had with AHS was for the fridge. One of the lines on the inside froze and the water was getting to the ice maker but not to the water dispenser. I submitted the claim online because I hate phones. Plus, it was easier and faster to do it online. Their website was pretty easy to use and if they needed any other information, they called me back. The contractor called me very soon after they got the notice and I gave them all the information, so that when the guy got here, he knew exactly what was wrong and what he had to do. He got the line defrosted and cleaned it out. Also, if he needed a part, he had it. Not all of them do that so many of the contractors would just come out and say they got to do this and that, then they order a part and say it's going to be another week. This one didn’t do that and he was really good to which I was very grateful. Since then, the fridge has been working great and it’s right back to normal.

My garage door wouldn't close. It will go down partially and come back up. I called American Home Shield. I have been with them for many years and the customer service has always been right on time and within 24 to 72 hours, somebody is calling. I’ve never had any complaint. I’m very gracious about that and as long as I can afford to continue service with American Home Shield, I will. However, I don't like Greenway in my house. They weren’t very considerate of me. They replaced the hot water heater and they messed up. I had to buy the pan for the hot water heater, which I didn’t mind, but at that time, I didn’t know that it was my responsibility. And when they took the pan out, it’s straight beside the place where it sits and then never came to replace the wood.
When I called to report that, the manager from Greenway was very rude to me. I also called American Home Shield about it. At first, I was complaining why should I have to buy the pan and they explained to me that it wasn’t covered, that that was my responsibility and I understood that, but it was just the way they had to remove the pan from the area that it sits in. The contractor had to come back out. He's a nice young man and it didn’t take him a good minute to fix. He fixed the motor and I didn’t think anymore to have him to look at the door opener on the garage for it to go up and down and then I forgot to ask him to look at the outside of the garage where the security code that I have.
Instead, I have to keep a remote in my hands to open the garage where you punch in your code. It doesn’t work, but I don’t worry about that. He came back again and fixed that. It was just screwed behind the pad. I really like him. His name is Justin and he just told me if I have any more problems, just call him. I had a little leak in a filter by the pool and I kept calling and calling but they kept putting me on hold. They said, "We'll get back to you." But I never spoke to them and never gave it a courtesy to come back. For a half hour I sat on the phone and there was nothing but music. I had to have somebody else go through different channels to finally get somebody to come out and do that work. I turned over to my daughter and they somehow got directly with somebody and within two days the problem was solved. He was very nice, did a good job, fast, knew what he was doing, and perfect.
I had AHS for many years before with no problem. I picked up the phone, called up, gave them the problem, they called me back, told me they're sending out a repairman and at that time it was just $65.55. But since I signed up again, I had nothing but problems. Also, now, it's $75 for a call and that was it. If I have a problem, I don’t want to have to go through this again. That was a very raw experience. I'm thinking very seriously of continuing because I think my contract is up. I was dissatisfied with my experience.

I have used American Home Shield one time since I've had them and it has been a nightmare. I cannot talk with them on the phone. I was trying to submit a claim for my garage door opener and I waited an hour one day and then an hour and a half another time. When I got a little perturbed about it, the rep said, "Hang on a second. I'll get right back to you." But, she put me on hold and I thought that she did it on purpose just because. However, the claim went well. Once they got the work done, the people that they got had been good. The techs came out so I paid the $100 service fee through the computer because it was next to impossible to talk with anybody. The garage door people were good and they took care of it but I still got a bill for the $100 which I already paid. Another thing was that my service for the first year went up by $4. I haven't been able to get a hold of them and it went up $4 and nobody can tell me why.
I tried to call them regarding the $100 and I did get through one time. The rep told me not to worry but I still kept getting the bill on my email so I got on my computer on my bank site and I called up where I paid it. The bill was paid and I made a copy of it. I got the bill they sent me and I turned in the bill and I mailed it to them. Finally, on February 1st, I got this letter saying, "Thank you for contacting American Home Shield. This is to verify that your contract has been cleared of a past due trade call fee due on your dispatch number by Overhead Garage Doors. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused".
There's absolutely no reason for American Home Shield nowadays because some of these other places I've called have a deal where you can put your phone number in there and they'll call you back. You don’t have to stand there on the phone for an hour and a half. That's just crazy. Also, I had to have the contractors come back out and adjust it but they gladly did it and I had no problem with them. I would tell my friends to get somebody else. One of the things that I thought was very strange about this was that when I Googled the best home insurance deals, they were one of the best. However, I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

But what happened with another claim that they didn't cover, which was unacceptable, was that I was in the shower and everything started backing up. I was covered with soap and shampoo and I felt cold water coming up around my ankles. So, I immediately shut off the water. And I noticed that the water was backed up so that it was almost to go over the lip where the tile was and it would've gone on to my carpeting. There was nasty water with stuff floating in it and coming up in my bathtub, and it was also coming up in my toilet. So, I got a washcloth and I dried myself off as much as I could. I called my husband and when he got home, he called American Home Shield.
AHS said that we would hear from somebody within 24 to 48 hours, but obviously, we could not wait. They gave my husband the name of the plumbing company that would be calling us but my husband tried to call them and they did not have a 24-hour line. Then we started trying to find someone that could come and help us immediately. We got someone to come out and a plumber that works in our area was nice enough to come out but he doesn't do that kind of work. But he was able to get the water to recede so that we could, at least, use our toilet. And then, he called someone that he knows, also in the area, and had them come out first thing the next morning, which they did. They cleared the line from the house to the streets.
However, American Home Shield refused to reimburse us. I wrote a letter and sent it to them, and they wrote back and said that we needed to wait for their people to contact us and that they were not going to cover it because we used someone outside of the people that they use. So then, they said I could appeal it. I sent a second letter and I explained everything in more detail. My office also sent copies of the bill from the two plumbers. But there was nothing they could do. It's not acceptable that they don't do business with a plumbing company that has a 24-hour line. I heard it's been good to do business with their people, except that when my husband called the company that was going to contact us within 24 to 48 hours, he just got a recording. We had to take action on our own.
Even though we pay American Home Shield every month for our fee, they just let us down. They've been really good in some claims and suddenly, they've been really bad in others. One thing that we learned early on is not to use their automated system because their automated system is not effective. If you stay on hold, you need to be prepared to be on hold for about an hour to an hour and a half each time you call them. It's unacceptable that you pay money and then if you want them to help you, you have to be on hold for an hour to an hour and a half. That's what my husband did the night with the plumbing issue. My cousin lives about a mile away and he's the one that recommended AHS, and she's canceled them a couple of times too. They're not very easy to deal with.

I go to AHS's website to submit claims and then because I know who the vendors are, I call them. But AHS usually gets back to me within the same day if I make a request and their reps have been great and very helpful. Also, I manage a lot of property so typically, it's rental and I just give the contractors access to take care of their business. But I have interacted with them before and they're great. All my plumbing claims are always great and Dean's Plumbing takes care of business.
The only problem is there are minimal vendors available that do the work in our area. Some of them are great and some of them, not so great. So, it depends who the vendor is. Sometimes, you don’t have an option and there's a couple of vendors that don’t return phone calls and that are not very good at all. If I get those ones that are supposed to do the work for me, I just call American Home Shield and tell them I don’t want that person, like with their electricians. If it's an electrical issue, it tends to be an issue. But everyone does the best they can. All in all, it's a good experience. And I think it's a great investment and everyone should have one. I try to get all my people that buy real estate and they always get one. Also, I manage over 100 properties and I tell them to buy it. When something major goes wrong, you're going to wish that you had some kind of insurance plan in place and it's not that expensive.

We've had American Home Shield a very long time and we've usually had some very good experiences. But this last experience with the cold weather was probably one of the worst experiences that we had with them. I was on the phone waiting for almost two hours for someone to call me back and I did that three times. I asked the lady I talked to to call me back because it takes me forever to get through, and she said it was not a problem. I told the last one I talked to that I wanted to talk to their supervisor because I wasn’t happy. And she said, “I'm going to put it in right now in the system telling the first available supervisor to call you.” They have not called me as of yet and this has been quite a long time now.
We realized, of course, that the weather was going to have a big play in this and I understand that, but if someone said they were going to call you back and they didn’t, and then you had to get back on the phone and ask for another hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes, it's very unprofessional. Finally, since I got an authorization for a person that’s not into American Home Shield's system to work on my problem, I got the service that day and the techs fixed my problem. That’s what I was hoping American Home Shield would do, but it was terrible and I was completely disappointed. We had to pay for the whole system which was $488. Then once it was done, the contractor company gave me receipts, I emailed them to American Home Shield and a couple of weeks later, we got a check. American Home Shield was good in the past, but they’ve shown their true colors in a time of real need. I wouldn’t recommend them.
I understand your concerns with the hold time you encountered, the delay in service to speak with a manager and the out of pocket cost to replace your heating system.

My recent claim was with the company called Mr. Fixit. The issue was with the air duct, the heat pump. The system wasn’t heating the house like it was supposed to. The tenant called me and told me that the bill he got doubled and was $300. I submitted the claim and the Mr. Fixit guy got in touch with them and I gave them the tenant’s phone number. The tenant called them several times to follow up with them. The guy never came through. So, then I called American Home Shield to complained about the company. I never want to use that company again ever. I tried to speak with someone on the phone. They were very helpful and we resubmitted a new claim. That gentleman contacted the tenant so they’re trying to work out something right now on what date they would actually come in and do the work. I've been with American Home Shield since 2005 and I'm pretty satisfied and I’ve actually turned a lot people onto them.
It would be great if there was a rating system for every company on the website. For instance, like that Mr. Fixit company. Since the guy didn’t follow up or contact the tenant back, I should be able to, by the click of a mouse, give them a 1-star or zero rating and explain why.

I had a little bit of an unusual experience with AHS when I filed a claim for my microwave. I tried to get some help at the beginning and the problem was we couldn't find somebody in our local area to take care of the claim because I'm in a somewhat rural place. I had to look for somebody myself. When I found one, they told me they were a representative for American Home Shield and that cleared everything up quickly.
The contractor diagnosed the problem, made the contact with AHS and let them know what was going on. A part had to be ordered and it took a little while for that to come. As soon as that was done, the contractor came and got the microwave fixed and it has been operational. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed because it is getting out there and aging.
Working with representatives who are already part of the AHS system is so much easier. It's wonderful when they have someone they've worked with already. But when I get somebody who I just have to find on my own because of where I am, for AHS to work with them and trust them is sometimes a little bit of a heartache. It takes a while and sometimes they ask them questions that are somewhat embarrassing. There was one occasion when I had to find somebody myself. They did the service but AHS just kept challenging them. So when it's somebody that comes from outside their system, that could get hairy. Sometimes, they aren't been able to work out a relationship with somebody in our local. I hope they find somebody that is in the system.

I filed a claim for my heating system with AHS. I called and gave them my information. I called the company that they referred me on a Saturday but I never got a callback and so I had to follow up with that company who AHS contracted with. I left a message and still, no one ever called me. So, I called again and it so happened that one of their techs picked up the phone. He indicated that he could come out around 10:00 or 11:00 but it was not good for me since I go to work at 6:00 in the morning. I had to leave work which was an hour away from home so that he can fix my unit. He waited for me and that was good but as far as the company itself calling me, I never heard from them. He said that their service, as far as the phone, is not good. So he personally told me to reach out to him as he had a number that called me. I finally got my unit fixed and it was one of those times when it was freezing cold. It was on a Monday around noon.
I have referred four neighbors to AHS and out of four, at least two have complained possibly. One said that she called in regards to a dryer that she just recently purchased. It was a new dryer and it went back and forth for a month. She tried to tell AHS that she felt the tech was taking their money and that that should not have been a big issue but AHS did not listen to her. They went with the tech. It was crazy because she was the one who is paying the warranty bill. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with AHS since the company that they referred me to was very efficient, however, the company that they referred me to repair my heater situation was closed on a weekend when it was freezing. It wasn't the contractor's fault, it was AHS's.

I needed AHS to put a new blower for my furnace. I filed a claim over the phone and I was on hold for almost two hours. Normally I don't wait that long but that was the time when it was so cold all over the world so they were probably getting a lot of calls so I understood that. Once I got through to someone, it was good. The contractors they sent were professionals. They were also good since they had come out for the second time since I didn't have a hole and I had to have someone else do it. The issue has now been taken care of and the unit is working well. I'm satisfied with my AHS experience. I would recommend them, and have done so to a few people. The payment is decent and the service is quick.

Our HVAC was making a high-pitch noise and it wasn’t throwing heat right. I called American Home Shield and they got a hold of a heating company. They sent a guy who found out it was the induction blower that was bad and he ordered me one right away. And within a day or so, the part came in and another young man had come out, installed it and did a very good job. At no time at all, we had heat and it was working great. I’m noticing a little bit of noise but it doesn’t do it all the time and it hasn’t affected my heating so I haven’t worried about it. It could be just a bearing getting warmed up.
Also, both the guys who came were phenomenal and they cleaned up after themselves. I would take those two gentlemen anytime. Everything went very well and I was thoroughly impressed this time with the contractor. When they called to say that the service person would be here within a certain window, they were very professional, down-to-earth and they made sure I understood what was going to happen. They treated me right and all it cost me was my $75 deductible. Nobody tried to up charges on me and I was happy with them.
It was a good experience, unlike the plumber they sent when I needed one. I had a toilet that had busted down at the johnny boat on the bottom and I thought I’d save the service person some time so I lifted it off and put it in my truck to haul away. I called American Home Shield and told them what happened and they sent a plumber out. He looked at it and he said I hit it with a hammer or something and did it on purpose, which I didn’t. And AHS wouldn’t pay for the toilet because of what he said.
While he was here, he told me that instead of using American Home Shield, he could fix this and that. He kept putting a price tag on everything he could fix. I told him he was very unethical. I pay $75 for him to come out here and he was supposed to be fixing the problems anyhow. He said he didn't have time to fix them but he would come back. And I could just pay him straight out and he'd fix them. It was ridiculous. I didn’t call American Home Shield at the time because I never gave it a thought, but I was infuriated.
Unlike the HVAC contractor, the plumber was the sole owner and plumber himself, all in one. And it showed when he got here and started to say that he could put a better toilet in and that AHS was not going to pay for the one that was broken. He told me he would show me his product that was supposed to do a better flush job. I told him I didn't want his. It was a train wreck. I couldn't remember who he was but if I ever have a plumbing issue, I would tell American Home Shield not to send him again. That aside, American Home Shield treats me really well when I call them and I don’t have any problem with them. They are very efficient and they do a fair job. I recommended my son to them and he had their contractors several times and he was happy with them.

I usually call American Home Shield to submit a claim. I had a water leak and when the contractor came out, he told me that he couldn't fix it because the water heater was installed improperly. They didn't do anything and left. I have to consistently shut my water off. American Home Shield told me the name of the company that was supposed to be calling me but that was over one and a half weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything back. And when I call American Home Shield, I'm placed on hold forever.

I submitted a claim with AHS for my refrigerator since it's falling apart and its ice maker wasn't working properly and they got me connected with a local repair shop. The contractors who came were very good and very well-educated on the refrigerator. They ordered two parts for the motor of the ice maker, but they didn't work. I can hear it working, but it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do. Then, they replaced some of the drawers on the inside, but they were still falling apart. Before I even got them out of the package, they were falling apart. Maybe it was the glue or how they were sealed, but they just were not working. The quality was not good. The unit that I had was probably a lemon and AHS replaced it.
The reps that I dealt with were very nice. They explained to me what they were going to do as far as replacing the item. They then chose the unit for me but they told me that if I wasn’t satisfied with it, I can look for something different and I can upgrade. So if I wanted something different, I could have gotten it. But I was satisfied with what they had chosen. Get AHS.

AHS has gone well with claims I filed. The air conditioning stopped working and the AC people came out and diagnosed it. Then they put in what's needed to be done with American Home Shield. American Home Shield processed it. And the company ordered the part, and then, they came and replaced the compressor. I believe I filed the claim online and it was easy. But I've done before over the phone filing. It's confusing though to try and get a person over the phone. It takes a while to get through and I go through a bunch of different menus. None of them get to a person for a while, and then, when I finally get a person, they're very helpful.
The technicians have all been very professional too. We've been satisfied. They know what they're doing more than we do. We've been pleasantly surprised at how fast they can get the work done. We've had our garbage disposal replaced and then, we also had a leak in our hot water unit that somehow stopped before the technician got there. But they've all been very quick to come. And they've had the part in their vehicles right then and there. So, not too often do they have to pause and order parts. If one is considering renting out their home, it is worth it to have American Home Shield as their home warranty.

One of the coils of my electric stove went out so I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and it was fairly easy. From when I filed the claim to when the contractor came out was around a week and a half. The contractor was very polite and very nice and he knew what he was talking about. But I had to reschedule the installment of the piece. He told me that he would have to send the claim to American Home Shield and they would have to order it.
And then they were saying that they received the part from American Home Shield already and that it would be replaced. Everything with American Home Shield has been good. When my stove about two years ago they gave me a list of different kinds of stoves that I could get from them because they had to replace the whole stove. And we ended up getting a GE appliance.
With the blue stove they were able to order the part but the technician was just telling me that it keeps happening. It's costing them more money to repair the stove than it is to actually just replace it. But until then I guess I have to wait until it keeps breaking. But I recommended AHS to a couple of people. When you're a home owner you don't intend for appliances to break. But one thing I've learned is when one thing goes wrong 500 other things go wrong so it's always something good to have.

If I could get logged in, I submit my claims online with American Home Shield. But sometime I have login issues, and if I couldn't do it on their website, I need to submit my claim on the phone which takes a long time. So online is much better because I'd be on hold a lot more when I'm on the phone. I had a claim for one toilet upstairs that had a sewage smell coming out of it and we had to keep the door closed the entire time. We have a septic system so we could smell that through it. AHS sent two technicians out for our claim. The first one told us that they would be early in the day between eight and twelve, so my wife took off from work to stay here. But we were called close to twelve and their rep said their techs would be out towards the end of the day. My wife voiced her opinion that we were told it would be earlier but he said that he couldn't help it.
When two people finally got here, they spent less than three minutes and left. They said that there was nothing wrong with the toilet and there was nothing to fix. Unfortunately, at the time, one of our children had recently taken a go in the bathroom and left some in the toilet. But he did not flush it because we told them not to use the toilet. So, the techs said the turd flooding in the toilet that wasn’t flushed was why we were smelling sewage. They talked to my wife like she was stupid so she was livid. She reported back to the company, then the head person above those techs was called out later. He was wonderful. He came out, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it within a small amount of time. He had been out here once before for something else and he had been nothing but great both times.
Except for that incident, my experience with American Home Shield has always been pretty good and I would recommend them. However, if I have a concern, they usually sub it out to out of town people in Oklahoma City who have to drive all the way to Tulsa to do it when there are people that are here in Tulsa that would work better with the scheduling. My wife used to be here for those repairs and she said that when the contractors come from Oklahoma City, it's almost like they schedule everything else first and we're the last place on the stop before they head back as we are on the west side. But when it's a Tulsa repair person, they're here on time and there never seems to be a problem.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good but I still have an issue with my aerobic system. I talked with American Home Shield's rep about my claim and then I sent them the quotation that the aerobic installer service gave me to correct it. I paid $140 for the option to take care of all the aerobic system but the rep said that they do not cover the septic system and that they just cover my ejection pump on the septic system. Over a period of time, the seals between the different sections going down into the ground to the tank have become unsealed so when it rains hard, the water runs into the tanks. The water pump pumps out the water but the water runs right back in there so it runs almost continuously and they said that it's not anything that the contractor do. The pump did go out and it was replaced so that was good.

I’ve been with AHS for many years and they have bought me a new microwave oven, a dryer, and a ceiling fan. I recently submitted a claim because my bathtub was draining slow. I didn’t have anybody to come out for five days. But when the contractor came, he was on time. I had some remodeling done and the technician said this happens all the time. It got some crud in there when they were working on the lines and we were putting in new fixtures. Eventually, he got the tub draining well.
The only thing I would ask AHS is that when we call in, they should answer the phone so I would be able to talk to a person. One time, when I was trying to get all the details worked out with my microwave oven, I stayed on the line for an hour before I spoke to anyone. By the time they get on the phone, I forgot what I was calling about. And when I call in for a service call, they’re more worried about the credit card than anything else. Every month, I pay for service and I know they try to do everything electronic and automatic, but we seniors don’t want the plain, old system.
Also, having to wait an hour on the phone to talk to them to get all the particulars worked out was ridiculous. I’ve wondered whether they would allow me to buy a new microwave. They only responded after I bought the microwave and sent the receipt. I then got my check and things went fine. But they need a lot of help. And they should elevate their music because they play the sorriest music in the world. Nevertheless, I’ve recommended AHS several times. In fact, two of my daughters got AHS.

I am seriously considering dropping American Home Shield because every time I have some issues, I would call AHS and fight with them which I couldn’t do anymore. They were trying to get me to sign a two-year contract but we’ve been with them since August of 2004 and have never had issues like the ones we have now. They had people come into our house as if it was their house. They would also tell us that if the guy they sent breaks something, AHS would not be responsible for it, even if they were AHS' subcontractor and not mine. I pay them a monthly fee for them to fix up my appliances. In addition, I contact them via phone 90% of the time and they put me on hold for hours and hours. I’m just sick of it.
I am extremely pissed at the kind of service that I’ve been getting lately. There was a guy who came out recently who didn’t do anything. He supposedly replaced a circuit board in my dishwasher but he never even opened it up. A second tech came in and replaced the circuit board. He had to take it all apart. The same thing happened with the refrigerator. The tech said that they fixed but didn't. They then said that both parts AHS supplied were defective. I was shocked at the kind of behavior I get from their people which was unacceptable.
I am paying Sears a lot more for the contract that I’m getting ready to sign with them. I’d probably have more deductible on the service calls than having to put up with AHS. I believe that American Home Shield is becoming a scam because they keep sending the same guy who does nothing. Moreover, if a customer calls in to complain, AHS tells them to go to hell. In addition, when I called and talked to the customer service rep, I said, “This is the guy who called before. Listen to the recording.” However, nobody did anything about it. When people ask me, I tell them to not take American Home Shield. They ripped me off and charged me money but provided me diddly squat.

We had an air conditioner problem and American Home Shield sent us some company out and said that our coil was bad. We didn’t think the coil was bad so we questioned it but just said okay. Then, they wanted to charge us to fix the coil and they also wanted to charge us extra money to do all kinds of other stuff so we said we didn’t want to do that.
Then we contacted American Home Shield about replacing the coil and they wanted to give us 300 bucks to replace the coil, but we can’t buy a coil for anywhere near that amount. They gave me some lame excuses that they buy so many that could get it at that price. We talked to Lore’s Air Conditioning Company and they said they can’t do that. We complained and it took a lot of complaining for them to send another company out. It turned out it was not the coil. The other company came out and fixed the problem with no money out of our pocket. Everything went smooth.
Then, we had a problem with the heater. We asked never to do business with the original company again. We have no issue with them except they were trying to gouge me. I didn’t know what they were doing and they were rude. American Home Shield told us that they would not send this company out to us but who did we get? We got that same company. So then we called back and went round and round. Finally, they sent the other company out to do the job.
It was a horrible experience because we had to go days arguing with them without us having heat or air conditioning at their respective times of being broken. Overall, they are satisfactory but the issue has really tarnished my image of American Home Shield. We've been with them for at least about eight years or so or longer and we have two different policies with them. But we’re considering going somewhere else and thinking about not renewing because of this.

The tech guy came and worked on it, and it worked for awhile. Then it got too cold and it froze up and stopped the other night. He came in yesterday and said something about the unit was no good. He talked to me and explained things to me and my daughter. He did very well, and they're usually right on time. The AHS reps were very nice and I've recommended them to several people.

We keep having problems with our refrigerator so we had to call American Home Shield about three times. Each time, they sent out someone to try to fix the problem and they continued to send someone out until the problem was fixed. We were really satisfied with them. Whenever we have a claim, we usually call them any time of day. We then get to their automated system and we tell them what the problem is. And then, they'd call back in a few hours to tell us that they have someone they have contracted to do whatever the problem is and give us an appointment date. And then, the technician would call us and let us know when they're on their way and then we had to wait. With our refrigerator, they told us that the earliest that they could get out was a week. But we called back and explained to them how important it was that we had our refrigerator. So, they got someone out within a couple of days to fix the problem for us.
We had to take everything out of the refrigerator and put the food in a cooler until we could get it fixed. Most of the time when the technician came out, he tried to fix the problem, turn it back on, and then he would do something else in the next three or four days. We had to call up and go through the process all over again. So, I did lose some food in the process of getting it fixed. But so far, they had it fixed. Overall, AHS has been helpful to us and our experience with them has been great.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was excellent. My dryer is now running fine. I went online to tell about my issue then I got an email the next day. I got a call from the repair facility \and told me that they'd be there on Tuesday. My wife was home when they went here and she said everything went fine. The contractor was very polite and professional. He looked at the machine, did some troubleshooting, knew what was the problem, repaired it, and put it back together. I would definitely recommend AHS to anyone who was looking for a home warranty. Keep up the good work and excellent customer service.

A fan was running all the time on our heaters and we couldn't turn it off. So, we contacted AHS to see if they could come and look at it. We called and left a message then their called us back right away and set the appointment. She was very good. Then the kid came over promptly and he was excellent. He was precise and friendly. He was also knowledgeable and explained everything to us. Plus, he talked to us at our level because we didn't know anything about any thing at all. He took care of everything and was absolutely wonderful. Since he took care of the problem, everything's back to normal and nothing bad has happened to our heaters.
This is the second time I filed a claim with AHS and it was a good experience. Compared to that, my first time wasn't a very good one. We had a plumbing issue back then and when the guy came out, he said he couldn't go outside and couldn't do this and that. So, we got no help whatsoever and we had to hire a plumber. But this time, I was very happy with AHS and I praise them very well. One time, when I was at Walgreens, the two ladies were talking about their insurance and said that they were unhappy with it. So, I told them to check with American Home Shield and they said they were going to do that.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my heating and air conditioning. My hot pump kept going out and I had to call them three or four times to get it straight because one technician put the wire in and according to the third guy when he turned around, he kicked it out. But they finally got it straight and it’s now working. The interactions I’ve had with the reps were good. However, I was very displeased when they could not fix my outside outlet because they said that they had to go underground to get the wiring straight when in actuality, the deck was already up. I’d already taken the deck up and they just had to take it under the deck and it was very convenient.
We also had a problem with the payment. Their rep said I didn’t pay AHS that much. Their rep got my card number before the service was done but I saw that the payment that I made while I was on the phone with her has been recharged to me. Other than that, my experience was okay. I'd tell my friends to jump on AHS because they're good to have.

With American Home Shield, I usually make the claim request online and then they send me the information. The vendor then contacts me and we agree on the time for them to come out. Sometimes we get a good contractor and sometimes we don't. We had a claim with the dryer and the contractors were fine but they didn't repair the dryer to my satisfaction. The machine is drying now but it moves around and makes loud noises. It seems to be worse off than it was before they so-called fixed it and I'm not happy with it.
I understand your concerns with the dryer repairs that were completed. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

My husband submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our furnaces and all went very well. American Home Shield handled themselves in a timely manner. We felt confident when they said the contractor would show up, they would. We usually get a 30-minute notice, which we need most of the time, to be sure that we're here and that we do not make the repairman wait on us. We didn't get that this time but we were contacted in time so we certainly were available to let the person in and do the job. Then the service was excellent. The contractor knew exactly what to do and he explained to us some things that had happened with the furnace, which may have been overlooked before. He was the most thorough, most knowledgeable, and the best that we've ever had. Now, things have been functioning probably the best they ever have. The entire experience was done most effectively.

We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our drain and the plumber who came out was nice. He said the same thing our septic guy did, which was not what we wanted to hear, but it was accurate. We were crossing our fingers it would be something covered. We didn't think it would be. The only thing that needs to be improved would be the process of getting through on the phone. My mom has dealt with AHS more and she has had a hard time being able to get through on the phone. The online stuff is all well and good but she's not much of a computer person.

The main water heater failed on a rental and although it's always easy to open a claim, it took a lot longer than expected to get the situation resolved. There was some confusion on the water heater because it’s hooked up to solar but it’s not any type of special water heater. It just has a solar panel on the roof. I initially sent out Just Plumbing but the guy couldn't do the work and ended up going out there to take pictures. But he told me what was going on. It was a water heater failure and he also gave me a number to the place that came out and did the dry-out. They came, cut the hose in the wall and dried it all out. They were helpful that way but I kept getting the runaround as far as getting it fixed and I talked to a lot of people to get it resolved.
I put the claim in at the end of December and it has been a month and it's still in the works. But after I got through everybody I had to talked to and the authorizations, they called me back and they were apologetic about what happened and how the confusion came to play. I’m okay with it now. I can see how the water heater could be confusing. Besides, it’s getting resolved now. It's scheduled for next week and I could've got it done last week too. But the tenant didn't want them in there so she rescheduled and the delay is on her now.

The ice cubes in my refrigerator would stop in the chute and then melt all over the floor. I filled a claim by phone and it went okay. The guy who came over for the fridge was able to fix it. In the process, I asked about two other claims and they weren't satisfactory. One was regarding the wiring and controller of my large spa outside. My interpretation of the contract says that it was covered and they said that it was covered when I called four months ago. However, this time they said that it wasn’t covered. I'm unhappy about that and I'd be calling back to speak with a different person who might give me a different answer.

Leak was coming from my Jacuzzi tub in my bathroom down into the living room. The contractor suggested to us what we probably should do so that the problem won’t happen again. So we went to the store, bought caulk, and did what he told us to do. We put caulking again where the base of the Jacuzzi tub meets the floor. He said the water probably was feeding to those small cracks. It needed to be re-caulked. And, so far, we haven’t had that issue anymore. Hopefully, what he said to do really works. However, I hate that the price went up. I joined American Home Shield in 2014 and when someone would come out, I only had to pay $60. Now it went up to $75.

I have been with American Home Shield for probably 10 years. I mostly file claims over the phone. My daughter would do it online if the call volume was too high because one time I must have sat on the phone for two hours not realizing I had the phone down. I was watching a movie and nobody ever came on the phone, so we ended up doing it online that day. But with the online issue, once I wanted some heating services done, and we punched the wrong thing. What happened was the guy who came out and serviced said he was coming to check the air conditioner and I didn't need air conditioning in November. I needed heating. Had I known that, I would not have let him into my house to do the service. I still had to pay for something I didn’t need. That was the only problem I had with that. That’s why I prefer to call as I can talk to someone, but I just don’t like the wait time.
Recently, I had my heater done. I must have called them three times. The first two times, I wasn’t satisfied at all ‘cause the guy who came out twice couldn’t figure out what the problem was. The house was hot. I was experiencing $1000 electric bill at least and the bill was always $200 or $300, so I knew it was a heating issue. I was getting dissatisfied with the company ‘cause I kept calling and I kept paying $75 service charge, and I was not getting any help. And then the $1,000 electric bill was a heartbreak. When I had the second guy, he was laughing at my bill. A $1000 light bill wasn't funny and that guy never went beyond the service.
Finally, I called American Home Shield and they finally sent somebody out who fixed my heater. This guy must have went and looked at the top services and he fixed it, so I was quite satisfied. I was very impressed with him and I would go to the moon with this guy because he went out and beyond. He was extraordinary. I really appreciated that ‘cause I was still looking at a $1,000 bill again, as much as $1,100. So all the time my heat was going under the house. Had the initial guy caught it the first two times, I wouldn’t have had this high electric bill. I don’t ever want him to come back to my house.
I needed to pay them and I feel as if I had them come out three times for the same issue. I already paid one guy twice. Why should I have to pay the third time on this same existing problem I kept paying for and I never got satisfaction ‘cause the house is still cold. Charleston, South Carolina just had snow three weeks ago, so outside was about 30 degrees, and inside my house was 60. That’s not warm, that’s comfortable, but it’s not heated. Nevertheless, I like American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

I generally find AHS very, very hard to deal with. It takes several phone calls and up to several hours to sort things out. I had I think an issue last year. Our air conditioner failed and I asked about getting money so that I can upgrade the system because what they were offering wasn’t really a great long term option. And just dealing with them on that is terribly not helpful. And the amounts that they offer were really not good. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m an absentee landlord in a different state from my property, I wouldn’t use them. And quite often, the quality of the people that they send is not good. And the people seem to overcharge. If something ends up being an item that is not covered or is covered partially, the people that we have to deal with are not what I would choose myself.
And we go through a process and somebody will call us in 72 business hours. It’s a little bit disingenuous. Instead of saying it could be up to five days, they express it in terms of business hours. So it’s really misleading. If we’re calling on a Friday, we hear from someone the following Friday, ‘cause 72 business hours is five days. And if one got an upset tenant in a hurry, or get issues that happens every year, with air conditioning in Houston and try to get somebody for assistance, it doesn’t happen. If it was me, I could move to a hotel. And when the service providers come out, they’re going to give a suitable array of time slot. My tenant, who is a dentist, is only available on Friday. And we’ve had some contractors who just said they’re not available to come out on a Friday or not available to come out for weeks. So we then have to start the whole process all over again.
We also had a pool pump motor fail in Texas. We called them and it took them two days to get back to us. And when they did, they said, it can take up to 72 business hours, which is another week, to get back to us. They don’t have any idea what would happen to a pool in nine days if it’s not pumped. It’s going to go septic. It’s going to need an acid wash, literally cataclysmic. Their time frame wasn’t working for us. And they said that’s the best they can do. And when the pool went completely bright green, we called somebody else and had the motor replaced. It was out of our pocket for $450. When they finally showed up in day number nine, they said they’re not covering it. They basically let us try to mitigate our loss, and then leave us on our own when we try to do the best for everybody. Our experience is not unique, unfortunately.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist in resolution.

She likes that rainfall shower head and I wanted an attachment because being not as young as I used to be, I can’t bend over like before. My wife discussed it with them. She was hoping to get a little larger one but the contractor said they brought the largest one they had. They wouldn't be able to do it. They said they couldn’t do anything unless we start over. The first time I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, my experience was awful. We were a brand new customer and we didn't have an account number. We couldn't use the internet because we didn't have the contract number. So, we had to use the phone and we called the 800 number, but it took us hours. In fact, it took us two days to reach somebody on the phone. The phone is just awful. But once we got an account number and we could use the internet, it was a piece of cake. My interaction with their rep was okay when I reached them. However, it took a couple of days before somebody came. It was four days the first time but it has been a little better, like two days since we used the internet.
Also, AHS made an offer that I can have the entire house re-keyed for a set price of $75, but they couldn't find anybody to provide the service. They said they'll make good with the offer if I negotiate a contract with a contractor. I called a couple of locksmiths and they just said, "Yeah, I'll get back to you on that." Maybe it's because I'm too far from the city. Therefore, they don't have a contractor that can do locksmith work. We had the plumber and the heating contractors and they were excellent. They showed up when they said they were going to and they were courteous and made everything work.

The drum of our washing machine was turning but the American Home Shield technician realized that the water wasn’t pumping out and that was what’s causing it. I made a call when I filed a claim and the rep was very polite. I like the technician that they sent out. He's done work for me before so I felt I've established a relationship with him. It's nice when you get used to somebody, there's a familiarity there. So, that just feels right, it feels good, instead of constantly having different strangers come to your house. He knows exactly what to do, finds it, and fixes it.
AHS is expensive but once you paid the annual fee, the service calls are $75 and that's helpful. I could do fixes myself in a lot of cases but sometimes, I like having the choice on which I don’t want to deal with and then I could just call and pay the service charge and have the work done for me. Also, when things break down in the house, they replace it. It feels good to know that I get some of what I paid for back.

Usually I've been satisfied with American Home Shield, but some of the vendors that they have are not quite on top of things. The last issue I had was plumbing and they sent a plumber out. He said he fixed the issue, but I'm beginning to have the same issue again. So I called AHS today to let them know that. Then the time before that, I had one for my furnace. The tech came out and they needed to add a pipe. They needed to get approval from American Home Shield and AHS gave it, but I can't get the tech to come and finish up the job and I haven't heard anything back. BestWay Mechanical did the plumbing, and they handled the furnace as well. It's been very difficult to reach the division that does the furnace work. They don’t answer the phone and you can't leave a message.
But the AHS reps are usually on it and they provide timely service. When I called back to see why I hadn't heard about the approval on the furnace, the rep immediately called BestWay to tell them that they had approved it while I was still on the line. They do a good job, though sometimes the wait time is so long and it's discouraging. I'm a business owner during the day and I can't stay on the phone 30 minutes waiting on somebody to pick up. It didn't work so I called up to have another company come out again because I didn't trust the previous guy. But from what I was told, American Home Shield's policy is to send the same company out. The same guy came out and tried to snake it, but it didn't work. He told me they have to go in through the roof but they don't do that. My husband said, "Forget about this. I'm calling Roto-Rooter." Someone came with a professional snake and everything was fixed $305 later.
It was a lot of time in between that I was dealing with a backed up sink because the contractor wouldn't cooperate at all. It could have been avoided if the guy knew what he was doing and fixed it the first time. He was walking all over the property and looking for another drainage line. It was ridiculous. I've had good experiences with AHS but this was a very costly one. Not only do they charge the $75 to come out but we're also paying $56 a month for the service. But I could not type in a comment to request the previous contractor that we had and I had to take whoever AHS sent me. Piedmont, our previous contractor, was outstanding and knew what they were doing. They called me and told me that they were on their way. They found the problem in 15 minutes, ordered the electrical panel and in three days, they came back and put it on. Everything was up and running well, and I would like to get them back.
When I talked to the lady from the contractor's office that I got coming in this morning, she was a little abrupt and awful sharp. They called the house phone but I’d rather use my cellphone. I asked her if she wanted a number to contact me with, and she said, “No, they’ll just be out between 3:00 and 6:00.” I finally told her that I wanted to give her my cellphone number in case I was out in the yard. I've had two heating problems and I submitted a claim to AHS for both of them. One was a rental property and the other one was my home and both of them happened around the same time. One of them went extremely well and they handled it right away. However, I had a big time issue with the other one. All I needed was a thermostat replaced. I put the request in back in November and it did not get handled until two weeks ago. The experience was terrible. I've been with them for a while, so I wasn't that taken aback. I don't think the request got to the vendor initially. And then, when it went to the vendor, that particular vendor came out just to look and I never heard from him again.
I dealt with the same issue for about three months. The only time I spoke with them was when I initiated it. So, it's as if they didn't give a good crap. They did not do a proper follow-up. I don't think that they did proper vetting in the first place. Had they done that, I wouldn't have experienced this in the second place. And their follow-up after being put on notice several times was little to none. Almost to the point where I am seriously thinking about leaving them and going to another company. And then, when the second service call went out, they handled it so well. They sent out that same vendor that I used that finally fixed my issue regarding the thermostat. I like the service people and that may have saved them.
I've been with AHS several years and it's been okay until I have this most recent experience. I had another experience with them too about two years ago and ironically, it was the same contractor. When I first dealt with this guy, he was under one name. And then, when they sent them out to me back in November, he was under another name. But it was the same folks and the same issues. So, they need to vet the contractors better. They need to be aware. It appears that when a contractor runs into problems with them all they do is lay off a few months then come back to them under a different name. Also, when a complaint is made AHS need to get back with the customer within 48 hours, and make sure that the issue has been resolved.

Recently we have discovered that our house plumbing in utility was incorrectly installed and it was releasing Methane gas into our house. We have immediately contacted our Home Warranty to help us resolve this issue. After paying our $100 plumber deductible, plumber indicated that our two utility drains do not have correct traps installed. AHS is now refusing to pay for the plumbing repair indicated that the drains are not there and they do not install new drains. Currently I am in process of taking AHS to court. I would not recommend anyone to use this company.
Hello, Mariusz. I apologize that you have had an issue with getting your service request resolved. Per our records, you were offered a 2nd opinion on the plumbing call but declined that option. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to further discuss the work order.

Last month, we smelled a hint of natural gas odor and called our utility company to check it out. They found a leak in our furnace valve. This was during a brutal cold spell. Scheduling with the AHS-assigned contractor was easy enough, although we had to wait a day - we survived with space heaters and electric blankets. When he came out, he took a quick look and very casually said, "yeah, it's done" (or something close to that). He told me he had "like 15 jobs" ahead of me, and that once AHS called me, I should ask them about "cashing out". Sure enough, when AHS called me, they informed me that the HVAC guy had asked that the completion date on the job be extended to January 19th. That would be two weeks and the temps were in the teens. So, I asked about the "cashing out" option. This call was coming to me Friday evening and the "cash out" people were gone and wouldn't be calling me back for 24-48 hours... starting Monday!
At this point, I felt like I had no choice (1 1/2 year old grandson was visiting, and I was worried about pipes freezing and adding to my problems), so I moved forward with a different contractor to have my furnace replaced. I figured the cash out wouldn't cover what I was going to pay, but it would go a good distance. I was VERY WRONG. AHS called me Monday and informed me that my cash out amount was...$628. I understand that they are "paying out at wholesale", but I asked her – “Are you telling me that you could purchase a brand new furnace AND pay your guy to install it... for $628?". "Yes, you have to understand that we are a large company and we get bulk discounts on the equipment..." I can only imagine the quality of furnace they would've used.
In addition to that, their contractor assessed an additional $1250 in charges that would not be covered by warranty for the install. The people that installed my new furnace found nothing exceptional in the installation that required extraordinary measures (or equipment). From what I've read, this isn't uncommon, as the contractors aren't paid much by AHS, so they make up for it with inflated non-covered charges. I'd already committed to getting my furnace replaced, so I took the check, canceled my coverage and moved on. Lesson learned.
Hello, Lance. I apologize that you had to take actions into your own hands due to the delay of completion. I completely understand why you did make that decision. It is true, AHS pays significantly lower than what a retail cost would be. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to further discuss your concerns.

We’ve had AHS since we purchased our home in May, and when our garbage disposal quit working, my husband called to make a claim. We were completely satisfied with the contractor that came out and the garbage disposal has been working wonderfully since the repair. Working with AHS has been great and having the warranty gives us peace of mind. If I wake up and my furnace goes out, I don’t have to worry. I can just call AHS. We’re very satisfied with our experience with them and I've referred them to my sister.

My pool motor had been going out for awhile and the last time I called in to submit a claim, American Home had me set a service request. However, when the service person came out, they said that according to the contract with American Home Shield, they couldn't do anything about it until the motor is dead so I had to pay the service fee. It taught me a lesson that I need to dig a little deeper before I schedule a service request. When my pool motor went out again, I called in to submit the claim as opposed to doing it online because I want to make sure the item was covered and the rep whom I talked with was helpful.
The only thing with the contractor was that he installed it and he went on his way but he didn’t set the equipment back up. It made all the water drain out of our spa which overflowed to our pool entrance and we had to call our pool person to come the next day to fix it. My advice to the contractor if I had talked with him on the phone would be to realize that his job is not only to install the equipment but also to make sure that either he turn it off so it doesn’t work and let the homeowner know that that was what he has done or he put the settings back the way they need to be. Everything has been working fine though since our pool person came out and adjusted everything.
We've been a client of American Home Shield for a very long time through several homes and generally, we're very pleased with the services. Occasionally, there will be an issue but it's not the company itself. It's more of the vendor and that happens with anything so we tend to still contract with them each time we move to a new home. I would recommend them and I did. I tell people the value that I've gotten out of having a service and how things happen even with a newer home. It's really a benefit to have a service like that.

The heating unit stopped working. We had to call American Home Shield to get them to okay Total Air to come, and the reps from American Home Shield were very good about getting all of the information and giving their names. They were very courteous about getting this help through. However, we had to keep calling and the contractor came and came and came and did what they could. It worked for maybe a day and a half each of the three times that they came.
It was the coldest part of the time of our lives. We are elderly and this was when we had all of that snow here and we didn’t have snow in Charleston like that. We had to take the heaters where we went or stay in the area where the heaters were. We didn’t have a heater like that in every room. We had to take the heater with us in the bedroom to go to sleep at night. So the entire house was very icy. The temperature in the entire house went below 50 on the thermostat. We couldn’t go in the shower like we wanted to because we didn’t want to get wet. We were coughing and blowing our nose.
The last time which was the fourth time that the contractor came, the young man had to replace two parts so now the unit's working pretty good. I wanted a copy of what the contractor had said to American Home Shield and what was wrong with it. He said that the company had to get the permission to get the parts from American Home Shield. And it finally happened. He did it and he put it in. He was very conscientious. He cared and was excellent with what he did. He was so apologetic that they had to keep coming. He gave the information to his upper person to get the parts needed to be replaced on what he picked up. It took awhile and he kept trying to get it through. He had a lot of jobs to do, but he made sure he got to us in the evening to fix it. Even though it was dark, he came. We have recommended American Home Shield to others.

They are a lifesaver in terms of taking stress off of me when I have a problem. The warranty came with the sale of the house and I had it for one year. I only had two claims with them the whole time and they were against the same air conditioner as it wasn’t cooling. Submitting the claim went well. I just gave AHS a call and within a day or two, the technician was here. The guy fixed it and the AC was cooling right after then that he got here.
I got along fine with AHS but I was not going to renew it. American Home Shield's covering the major appliances, the heating system or the cooling system. But the AC unit was 22 years old and I didn’t want it to be continually wired and put together. So I ended up buying a new unit. Then the other one has two units that were put in 2015. So now, I have two heat pump units and one has a 10-year warranty. The other one has seven years left. And I wasn’t going to pay that kind of money for the refrigerator, the washer and the dryer. The warranty just didn’t fit my needs anymore.

American Home Shield has been very good. The boiler went out and it was not working properly. They sent out a guy who did the boiler also went up in the attic and was checking out the unit itself to make sure that the thermostats were connecting together with the boiler thermostat and the air handler thermostat. He noticed a problem so he said to call AHS back. We called to get another schedule and now they've gone ahead. Now, there are some repair parts they got to put on the air handler, and the thermostat is working great and so is the other thing, too - the boiler is working good. They've got to come out one more time, but other than that, everything is fine.
Submitting a claim to them is simple. Within 24 hours, somebody calls and schedules to come out and work on the problem. Unless it's an emergency, like if you are an elderly on an oxygen tank or you got little children, they try to do it faster. They send out qualified people. They get the job done. It is not done as fast as if you were to just call one of your friends or one of your people you know and get them out of there and get it done. That is the drawback but it is expected. Nevertheless, I would recommend them. If you got a house that is 10 years or older, you might want to think about getting a home warranty.

The refrigerator was icing up and water was forming at the bottom of it. When filing a claim with American Home Shield, they're a little hard to get a hold of both on the internet or by phone. I've been on hold for an hour and a half and I won't do it anymore. I refuse to stay on hold that long. It doesn’t matter what time of day I try to do that. It's still very hard to get through to them.
But once I finally got a hold of the company though, as far as their work and sending people out, that was good. Everything was on time. Since the repair the refrigerator has been working fine. Before I had to clean the water where the water was on the bottom all the time and now I no longer have to do that. I've recommended them already to about three other people. They're a good company. They've always seemed to send people out and they're very quick on that.

We called American Home Shield for a leaking roof. The claims rep was professional and the contractor came almost like the next day. He was nice because I've dealt with them several times before and he was able to point out to me that it was a roof issue. He gave me a good idea of what was happening. He basically told me that I need to call a roofer and left. I had paid $75 and he said to call back into American Home Shield to see if I could get a refund. The warranty is useful when something is broken but the money you're paying when you're not fixing anything it seems like a waste of money. I've had American Home Shield for 8 years and I told my friends in the past that it's good to have one but they were kind of hesitant because of the price.

The washing machine wasn’t spinning properly for about two months. So I filed a claim to AHS over the phone and it was quick and very to the point. They knew exactly what I needed done. They told me when the person would be calling. My interaction with the claim representatives at AHS was flawless. They were very helpful. The contractor called on point, the day they said he would call. He came, and within 20 minutes he was finished. He was knowledgeable in his craft. He knew exactly what it was about five minutes into taking the front off. The washing machine is working much better know and I don’t have to go to the laundromat. The quality of work performed by the contractors AHS sent has always been excellent.
I tell everyone I know that have a home or is buying one to make sure they had AHS's policy. If they don’t have it, I’ve given them the information to obtain it. And if they have it, I’d tell them that it’s worth the weight in gold, because it generally pays for itself if something ever breaks down. AHS is doing an excellent job. The only thing I wasn’t too happy with was the fact that they have different price point depending on what area you live in for your service call. Where I live, my service call price went up. A friend of mine lives further down in South Jersey, and their price is actually lower for his service calls. They should’ve just keep the service calls one price no matter what area you live in within the state. If they have to make different amount, it should’ve be based upon the state. But I guess they got to do it based upon the service industry.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was due to a furnace issue and I was a little upset with the contractor. It was cold as heck and they really didn’t come to see what the actual issue was. They could’ve just done that and found out if they had to order parts or not. Instead, he called and told me, “Oh, the warehouse is closed. I shouldn’t come out there to check on your furnace. I have to do that when they open up.” Even if he had to still order parts, I would have liked for him to come out there and see what the heck is going on. It may be something that he could fix quickly. And if it wasn't, at least he was out there to see what the issue was instead of having us sitting in limbo and freezing.
I gave them a call and told them that. And then once I did that and told them how unprofessional it was for them to do that, they came out the next day. They did a good job because they knew I was highly upset. They’re a pretty good company, but how they did me was just really wrong. Everything else, I’ve had great experience with. I like the way AHS kept in contact with me the whole time and I appreciated that. I would definitely recommend them.

I had issues with my two ovens, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. And then, one of the ovens freaked out again beyond the callback period, but AHS recognized that it was all screwed up, and that the delay was caused by the shipping of the parts because they were back ordered. So, they decided to call it within the 60-day window, and accommodated me for that. The part they ordered out arrived, and SEARS came out and fixed my oven. They rebuilt the little unit where my clock is on my oven, instead of giving me a new one. It was perfect. Things break, and if I my oven went out and I didn’t have AHS, I would probably use two to three weeks looking into where I’d get my new oven. AHS is well-worth the money, and I wouldn’t own my home without it.

American Home Shield's response is usually pretty quick. I'll call and tell them what our problem is and they would tell us when we're going to hear from somebody. Our most recent claim was for a very old refrigerator. It was in the house when we bought the house and had no problems with it until we started noticing water leaking inside it. My husband called and a day later, the appliance man came. He took a look and estimated that the refrigerator was about 30 years old. He also said it was so old it could not be repaired. We were treated very well and respectfully by the contractors they sent and it went very well.
American Home Shield sent me through email the refrigerator replacements that they would recommend. I selected the one we wanted and it took about a week for it to get there. American Home Shield was wonderful and we have a brand new refrigerator. And it didn't cost us anything. We pay monthly to American Home Shield so essentially, we are paying. However, we did not have to put out any money for the replacement. We recommend American Home Shield to anybody who'd listen.

I bought the house in April of last year and my realtor asked for American Home Shield in closing. So far, I've had some good and bad experiences with them. Every time I’ve ever called them, I’ve always had to wait more than an hour. As a matter of fact, one time, I fell asleep and woke up an hour and a half later, and I was still waiting. So the wait times are ridiculous.
I’ve had three different claims with AHS and the first time was for a leaking pipe. I called and they sent out a plumber. He was a kid and he missed it. Then the pipes leaked further, causing damage to my ceiling. So the same company had to come back out again but this time they sent a totally different plumber. He knew what he was doing and pretty much pulled out half of my ceiling. Both techs were friendly but the second guy had more experience. But what they did was a patch job and they told me that I’m responsible for getting somebody else to come back out and fix it back to the way it was. One company also came out to fix my washer. Their tech told me that he’d have it fixed that night, then all of a sudden, he wouldn’t. He said it would be a couple of weeks before the part came in and they could reschedule. So it was two and a half weeks later that they fixed it.

My microwave oven was not working and American Home Shield sent out someone who called in for the part which was no longer available. It showed that my microwave was a counter top but it was a built-in so AHS denied the claim. I said that it was not right because the microwave is built in to the cabinet. I was very upset, but the rep was very nice and they set up a time for a second opinion. So AHS sent out a second person and they took pictures and did whatever they had to do and sent the claim back in, and now I'm waiting for the new microwave to be delivered. There were two different contractors and they were great.
Everything was done well except that it's been so long that I've been without a microwave. I am a microwave person and not having one has not been very good. I do a lot in the evening for my grandchildren and I'm used to being able to stick leftovers in the microwave for my husband, which he hadn't been able to. It's been very inconvenient. It's the same thing when my washing machine quit. It takes so long for something to be done, and then there's also holding on the phone for so long to talk to somebody. I've been waiting since December to get my dryer fixed. It would dry and then it wouldn't dry, so I called and filed a claim. And then I also filed one for my freezer 'cause ice wasn't coming out. I filed both claims the same time and apparently, American Home Shield has a policy where if you make two claims on the same ticket, they can only come out and fix both of them at one time. So, even though my dryer went out, if they take three months to fix the fridge, I have to wait three months for them to come fix the dryer as well. They won't come out and fix one and then come back later and fix the other one.
I told them not to worry about the freezer and to just get my dryer fixed. They said I could get another freezer, but they could only give me $600 because that's how much it would cost to repair it. I went to go and look at fridges and I didn't see anything close. They said, "We could start working on the dryer now that we don't have to worry about the freezer." So then, I called back. They said they sent off the part for the dryer on January 8th, and the contractor company should've had it and they should've come out and fixed it. I called the contractor company and they said they were waiting on AHS. They came back out two weeks ago and they said it needed another part. I asked how long it would take and they said five to seven days.
The only person that I've actually spoken to that was half decent at the contractor company was a lady named Sadie. She's the one that said, "We're going to have to call back AHS and see 'cause they're supposed to be ordering the part." Everybody else was like, "We don't have any information. We're going to have to call AHS and you're going to have to wait. Call back five to seven business days." So, that's pretty much all I've been getting back and forth. I've been with AHS for a while. I had service with them before and I never had this problem. I would tell others to save their money and go buy new appliances when they break or fix it by themselves. Having AHS is not worth it.

Now, I typically just go online and fill out what my service request is and usually within an hour or so, somebody calls me and sets an appointment. Everything has been smooth depending on the time of the year like when I called about the plumbing, someone showed up that same day to look at my plumbing leak. But, if it was the summertime and you're having an air conditioning problem, it might be a week before somebody can come and get to your house. It depends on how backed up everyone is. For the most part, my interactions with the contractor were very pleasant. I had two claims with AHS around the same time which was unfortunate for me. During the winter, my water heater went out and so did my furnace. The furnace was a previous repair that I had with a contractor I used to have before. I didn’t have a problem with the contractor AHS had for the furnace. But the previous one they used to have two years ago kept on coming and repairing for the same issue. This time, I called AHS and told them that it was a previous problem that I had with a previous contractor that I had. They told me they no longer used that contractor. They opened the claim and they sent me an email of who was going to come and service my furnace on that same day.
AHS got on this so quickly and they actually needed to condemn the furnace. AHS got on my heater claim really quickly too and they sent a gentleman to do it. The only delay was for the product to come in. Other than that, most of the contractors that AHS had contacted me within 24 hours if not less than that. Since the most recent repair I had with them, the appliance has been performing great and I've had no problems with it.
I’ve been with American Home Shield since I bought my house in 2011. I like the quick service they provide when it comes to a claim. Throughout the years, things have gone bad and I can’t complain about the price that they offer for what I have because I got the top of the line. It comes with everything and covers appliances, bathrooms, and stovetops. The deductibles are reasonable. The only thing is sometimes when I call them during a certain time and the call volume is high, it could be a long wait. It’s beyond their control because during this time of the year a lot of people call in for furnaces and stuff like that so it becomes a little difficult then. AHS recommends I file my claim on the automatic filing of the claim or do it online, it’s quick. But beyond that, I don’t have a problem with AHS. The great piece of the deal is that they work with me immediately.
I recommend AHS quite a bit. I have a lot of coworkers and I deal with them buying homes. I tell them that I could vouch for American Home Shield as they've been great. I’d say, “Look, they talk about PMI and I hate to compare them, but that’s one of the other services around here, which was recommended to me when I first moved here. But then I had a coworker that recommended to me American Home Shield so based on when I started reading, I decided to go with them." I'd tell them, “Pull PMI services and how much it costs you. Pull American Home Shield and see how much it costs you and how much your deductible is." Everybody that I talked to have then gone with American Home Shield for the service they provide.

AHS has been really reliable and I've been very happy with them. I've been with them since I bought my house in the 80's and they're trouble free. I just pay the premium and the copay and things can be fixed quickly. The most recent claim I had with them was for the leaks in my master bedroom and basement's bathroom. The technician they sent was really friendly and helpful. He tried to help me diagnose the problems. He fixed the basement leak quickly and determined that it was due to the pipe's aging. I was also using well water, so it was also a nature problem.
Then, for the master bedroom's bathroom, he told me that the I needed to reseal the leak to know what the problem was. He also told me that it was due to a device failure and that a new one was needed, but it was out of his authority. I then resealed everything by myself but it was still leaking. The drywall also wasn't fixed. So I made a second call. Since I liked the technician who first came out, I requested for him. He then came out a second time and fixed all the problems.

I've dealt with an Assessor before because I had some complications. I just went throughout the checker for some of the issues that I had for the first claim. She was really nice and handled the situation right away. She was on top of it and got back to me as soon as she was done speaking with the contractors about the issue.
Their contractors were okay, but they could be better. I've put the electrician who came on the list of contractors I don't want to come back. I had to call to a second opinion because there were a lot of issues going on with that contractor. The plumber was really nice and got the job done. I felt there was an issue with the mainline. There was a blockage and the water was coming up the toilet and then, eventually, in the shower. The first guy that came out, lifted the toilet and snaked at the toilet. Then he snaked the shower, but he didn't snake the main line in front. He just kept saying it's not a main line blockage. When somebody else came out with a camera, they noticed that it was a mainline issue. I would recommend American Home Shield. Their deductible isn't too bad and the issues get taken care of. They just have to handle their call volume better.

I've had some bad contractors but the ones that American Home Shield sent out lately were good. I had a claim regarding my heater and the contractors came out twice. They were polite, well prepared, and they did the work. The unit is now performing well since the repair. I would tell my friends that they need to get American Home Shield.

We requested a service call for our heater. A contractor was assigned. But for three (3) times he did not show up as promised for a follow-up service to finally fix our heater. The heater problem started after Xmas 2017, meaning more than a month ago. We contacted AHS in many occasions, after waiting on hold almost more than an hour every time, yelling in frustration. It seems there is something fishy between the contractor and the agents on call since they always tried to justify the contractor's unprofessional attitude rather than looking into the reason of frustration of the client.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service as well as the missed appointments to have your heat repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.

I recently filed a claim online for my furnace. The contractor AHS sent was fine, however, AHS doesn't use contractors who are timely on weekends. They said they'd get somebody in 24 hours, but it took them four days with the last two claims I've had. In one case, I had no water and in another, I had no heat. Their contractors don’t work Saturdays and Sundays. So if something goes wrong on a Friday and they're not busy, they'd show up on Monday, otherwise, they'd show up on Tuesday. If I didn’t have a home warranty, I would call until I find a contractor who's working. I'd ask, “Can you get out here today?” And if they say no, I'd call the next one.
American Home Shield didn't care. Although they got back to me right away, they just farmed it out to a contractor and then, they were done. I have things going on during the weekends and I can't cancel last minute on people like I had to do twice. It was embarrassing. It would cost me more, but I would cancel my home warranty because that's not acceptable. Then there was a third incident, this time with the air conditioning. It was hot and the AC was out for a couple of days even if it wasn't a weekend. At that time, the problem was with the contractor. But the other contractors have all been good and have fixed issues in a timely manner. When they said they were going to show up, they did.
Daniel, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.
