On the 20th of November, we placed a call to American Home Shield to report the leak of a faucet. On the 24th of November, the contracting company came and assessed the problem. Then they set the day that they were going to order the parts. This is a tenant’s place and they told the tenant that the parts would take around a week because it was Thanksgiving. I gave them $100 for the service call but they left without repairing it. Then the parts never came.
So I called AHS for the parts and they said that I had to wait 14 days. That was fine but then we called them back and they said it was 14 business days. We called them back after 14 business days and they said if we had not received the parts, they didn't know what to do. My tenant didn’t have water for a whole month and they were very upset about it.
AHS started to figure out what was going on with the parts and we were told the parts were sent to the wrong address. I asked them if we could have somebody go there and replace the faucet as soon as possible, but they said they could not do that. I asked them if they could find another contractor and fix the faucet fast because the tenant has had no water for almost a month and we’ve been very patient. We called AHS so many times but they said that they could not do anything about it and that their hands were tied. They said they had to open a case to investigate what was going on but I told them that there was no need for that. I have not gotten the thing fixed. Then they said they had to re-order the parts but it would take a week or so and they could not guarantee. I asked them to rush the order and they said no. So I told them to forget about it. I cancelled the order and then called somebody else to repair the faucet.
The next day, I found out that on the website that they put down that the job was completed. So I filed a dispute with the credit card company but they said that it was a valid charge because AHS gave the service on November 24th. But that was an assessment, not a repair. I asked for proof that AHS fixed the work. If the contractor completed the job, there should have been my tenant’s signature. Yet I have my tenant’s payments for another handyman and I have proof that I asked somebody else to fix it. In the dispute, AHS also said that I should call customer service to resolve the issue instead of withdrawing the payment. But I said that I had talked to them so many times and each time we called AHS, it took literally an hour, or thirty minutes minimum, to reach somebody. We had also asked to talk to the manager but they said that the manager was not available. They said they would have the manager call back but no manager has called back.
I have four rental properties and because I was so upset about their service, I cancelled all the policies right away except one. I could not cancel that one because I had already placed a call for repair. On the second case, the contractor had repaired the plumbing problem but it was leaking again. The contractor is going back to fix it. They said that they would respond in 24 hours and we’re waiting for them to schedule the appointment. Nonetheless, my experience with American Home Shield was not so good.
Hello, Jessie. I am sorry to hear that you had to cancel your policies as a result of the service that you were receiving. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns further.

I’m a broker and I recommend American Home Shield to all my 150 agents. Filing claims online is easy and is the best way to go because calling AHS is much more difficult. When I filed a claim for my washing machine, they were able to send a contractor out very quickly. The company, A-1 Appliance, was excellent as well. I have had them out twice for two different things and they were very responsive.

Our thermostat needed to be changed and there was a part in the attic that was dirty and had to be cleaned. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and they came out the next day and fixed it. Everything is now working as it should be. But the people who came out for plumbing weren't the best. Still, I've been a customer for eight years and I've only had one issue. Everybody I know that has AHS wants this too, so I tell everybody I know that I'd keep AHS.

My heater wasn't putting out any heat. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and the rep helped me. She explained everything to me, so I was fine with that. Then, the contractor they sent was very respectful. He finished the job in under an hour. He had to put a part in and that fixed the unit and now everything is back to normal. The only thing I didn't like was that they surprised me with the upfront payment but I understand how they're working now so I have to deal with it. I've been with AHS for three years now and I'd recommend them to anybody who can afford to go that route.

We noticed that the spark of one of the burners on our gas range wouldn't work. We called AHS for it and they told me that I have two options. One, we go ahead and get someone out to fix it and then they’ll bill me for the $75 copay on the service and the rest of it, and I haven't heard back from them. I thought they were going to call me and set up a date or do a charge on the credit card or what. But I got their phone number and I told them I was going to call them and go through the steps and everything.
Whenever I submit a claim, I like to talk to a live person. Their lines are quite busy sometimes, but I got through and it worked out just fine. The rep was able to answer some of the questions I had, like if I have to pay the contractor $75. The contractor then called me and said that he was in the area. He got here the next day and he worked as soon as the schedule, which was great. What he found out was, unfortunately, I need to have the whole thing replaced. We, however, found out that you can turn on another burner and you can activate the front spark. Of course, that burner is the one we used the most. It's at the front of the range and so we decided it’d just be best to get it all fixed because when another one goes out we'll maybe add another service call.
When I talked to AHS again, I asked them how they want the payment to be because we have a credit card account which is being charged monthly. I told them that we could just plus that on there or send them a bill. With all the protection plans, you're fortunate if you pay the yearly fee and nothing happens because in this case we were charged $400. But when you figure the labor and the cost of the parts, we're going to be more than breakeven.
We had another issue with the garage door opener and we paid the $75 upfront and they sent a gentleman out. However, he had to go back and get a part so we will be at approximately $150. But with the service and parts, I'm sure it will cost more than that. But we had really good service from AHS. My son and daughter-in-law also have them and they also had a good experience with them.

I had a furnace problem recently which I submitted a claim for with American Home Shield. That process went smooth but the person they selected at first said that they weren’t able to do it and so AHS found someone else for me. The contractor then had to wait on the part and the furnace was done in two days. But since my heat went out, I had to buy some space heaters and now I’m still waiting on them to reimburse me for buying those. I haven’t heard anything from them yet but I know it takes about 6 weeks. Other than that, everything went really good.
My only problem is it takes so long for customer service to answer the phone which may be 45 minutes to two hours every time. And then after waiting so long, the service disconnects then I have to call back and start all over again. When I asked one time why it takes so long, they said because they took over a new company and that their service was bad because of that. The next time I called, they said the service was bad because of the weather. I’ve had them since 2000 and I used to have bad experiences with contractors as well, but now AHS hires new people and it’s going good with them.
I always refer people to AHS but a couple of them had a bad experience. They told me about AHS having poor customer service. One lady told me the other day that her lights were out in one part of her house but the electrician AHS sent out couldn’t find anything wrong. So, she hired another outside electrician that came in and said the problem was small and then fixed it. And so she cancelled her contract with AHS. I told her she should’ve called a supervisor instead and she said she did but the supervisor didn’t call her back until a week later. I had an experience like that when I got my dishwasher replaced a couple of months ago. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that one would call me back, but they never did. So I called back and talked to one of the workers who wanted to work for me and then she fixed the problem for me.
I recommend AHS and let people know that every time customers have a problem, AHS always solves the problem for them. They're the best company around. Even in the store, someone might say that they need a water heater so I’d tell them to try AHS because if the contractor can’t fix the water heater problem, AHS is going to replace the unit. I also tell my kids and anyone who buys a house to get warranty from AHS. My son’s got three houses and I tell him to make sure he gets a warranty for the rental property, and that’s what they did.

My claim with American Home Shield for a plumbing issue was totally useless. They came up with some reason to get out of it, so I paid them $75 for nothing. I had a positive experience with the dryer though. I submitted the claim online and connected the payment to my credit card and everything happened, and the response time was great. Everything was automated and smooth. AHS sent a guy from AmTech who was young and inexperienced. He did not know what he was doing. The dryer was still making a different noise when he tried to convince me that it was all right. After two unsuccessful tries, one guy came out from the same contracted company and he solved the problem in five minutes. He knew exactly what the young guy did wrong. Since then, everything has been working okay. But, still, the plumbing issue was a fiasco. For $50 a month, I could save up for and get a better experience.

Normally, we call American Home Shield and tell them that we have a problem. They then contact a contractor and then the contractor would call us and they tell us when they would be coming. Our lights and things kept going out and we couldn’t get it to work. This is an old house and it was supposed to have been rewired when we moved in. They did not put that on the contract and it wasn't until much later that we found out that they put in a new fuse box but did not rewire anything. Some of the contractors they've sent have been a little bit off. But the contractor they sent this time was fantastic. He knew everything and explained it. He did the work quickly and in a timely manner. Once he was done, it was never a problem again. I have recommended that people go to American Home Shield when they buy homes.

I called American Home Shield because I had a leak in the bathtub. The interaction I had with the rep over the phone was fine, although the contractor took a while. He had to take a handle off and had to take it with him to get a match because he had to replace something. He came back in a couple of days when he said he would so he was nice. But I wish American Home Shield had a cheaper price. I also had a situation in my Jacuzzi where the motor on the Jacuzzi went out and the plumber said that they could come out and fix it, but I had to remove the panel on the front myself. It’s a real problem right now and I’ve got to get somebody in here to do something to it.

We got a replacement dryer from American Home Shield. The agreement was eventually honored but there were a lot of hiccups along the way. First, I can't reach anybody at American Home Shield. I waited one day on the phone for two hours and 15 minutes. The other days, I only waited 45 minutes to an hour. And each time we called American Home Shield, the wait was incredibly long. I spent half of the week on the phone waiting. Second, the first delivery person who came in should have come in and have been prepared. He was supposed to install the new dryer but he said he wasn’t going to move out the old one. He also incorrectly stated to his boss that there was a gas line blocking it, although there was no gas line. It was a water meter line and it wasn't blocking the dryer because whoever installed the prior dryer got around that line without a problem. They didn't build the house around a water meter line. It was very frustrating.
We eventually got someone else -- a different driver, same company. But we had a lot of delays and problems. American Home Shield was trying to work with us but they could not schedule it and the contractor could not get through to them. They did not know what the situation was and they couldn't provide enough information so, overall, it was an extremely difficult process and it was not seamless.
It's been two and a half months since we started the process. I spoke with a total of about four different people at AHS, and of the people I spoke with, most of them were professional and were clear and understanding. The last two people we spoke with were terrific. But there was one person we spoke with a little earlier in the process who was remarkably unhelpful. And the guy who first came to deliver the dryer was the rudest and the nastiest. The company called when he was on his way and he showed up two hours later than they said he would be here. They said he was 30 minutes away but he showed up two hours later or even longer. The man shouldn't be working for that company.
American Home Shield is extremely expensive and over the past seven years that we've had it, it has been less coverage for more money. We also have had problems with the billing because the discount didn't appear. There's a disconnect between the level of service that's advertised, and a little less service that there once was one time and the level of service that exists now. Also, the company's policies had cut back on what they cover and increased the rates. They've gone within the rules but they've always found how it could be done within the rules, although they shouldn't be in that position. But the individuals are very committed and this is why we stayed with them. The individuals that we spoke with, especially most recently, were bending over backward to make us happy so that was important. I have recommended American Home Shield to my friends.
Hello, Robert. I understand that the hold time for appliance purchasing has been brutal, to say the least. Our apologies for the hiccups and irritation with getting that issue completed. Thank you for recommending us to your friends.

Our pipe burst in the living room wall and it was leaking. I called American Home Shield and the rep that I dealt with was pleasant and professional. However, the first contractor that they were going to send out was very unreliable and unprofessional. AHS set us up with a different contractor very quickly and the second one they sent out was mildly reliable. He was late and very unfriendly. But at the end of the day, he did everything he was supposed to do and did a nice job. Overall, we're satisfied with AHS and have always been with our experiences. Although I did not like their choice of contractors, AHS is a good safety net for expensive repairs that need to be done.

The people I bought my house from included a 1 year warranty through AHS. I filed a claim due to an issue with hot water in the house. The first plumber they assigned me to never reached out to schedule an appointment. I contacted him by e-mail and phone, when I did connect with him he claimed AHS never sent him anything and asked me to forward the work order.
I never heard back from and reached out to AHS, they advised (after being on hold for 75 minutes) that I could request a vendor change, but the process would start all over. I opted to give the first guy another chance. AHS reached out to him and I heard back from him that he was booked the next to 2 days. I replied and asked if we could pencil something in for day 3. No response.
I called AHS again a few days later and this time was only hold 50 minutes. I was reassigned to a new plumber. The next day a third plumber contacted me that AHS notified him about my problem and I discussed the situation with him. He was busy, but was able to fit me in on day 3. Finally. Day 3 gets here and the plumber arrives. He quickly identified the issue and called AHS to get authorization. They denied the claim as it was something not covered. I paid the plumber to do the work because I needed the issue resolved. It’s been 60 days and in the last week I’ve gotten 2 emails from AHS that I owe them $100 for this claim.
They did nothing to help me, in fact their vendor wasn't interested in the work and I needed to go back to AHS to get this resolved. They delayed my repair and want me to pay them after I already paid the plumber. I don’t think so. As a homeowner I wouldn’t want to deal with them again. As a real estate agent I would never recommend this company to any of my clients.
Hello, Ernest. I understand your point of view regarding the service fee. Especially as it took us more days than necessary to locate a contractor to service your issue. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to discuss your situation.

I have an ongoing claim with American Home Shield. We had a technician come out and take a look at my heating system. It runs off the hot water steam so the hot water plays the part of the power heating system. I turned it off from where it's supposed to be very hot, which was not a good fix. Then I was still having the problem so the technicians came back out and they diagnosed that the water heater is not suitable for that particular heating system and it needs to be the high-efficiency water heater. American Home Shield ordered the water heater then they canceled it all of a sudden because the original heating air people were not listed as plumbers, although the gentleman told me he could do it. AHS sent out a plumber but the plumber didn't know anything. I was under the impression that they're going to get the heater installed by a plumber but he never gave the report in.
All of a sudden, we heard back and he said that there's nothing wrong with the water heater and it's just that the floor or beneath the water heater is rotting and needs to be replaced. But no plumber came out and now, I have to have another opinion with another plumber, which is going to happen tomorrow. The water heater was replaced a few years ago by American Home Shield and the plumbers that came out who did that did not put a high-efficiency water heater in. I've been having a problem with my heating every year and it's been an ongoing thing now for too long. Now, I'm left with high electricity and high gas because it's a gas water heater and it gets my water heater always very hot in order to heat the home. American Home Shield hasn’t handled the situation very well.
There was another incident that happened in December. It was the HD heating/ac system and it could have been replaced easily. The ac/heating system was not out of warranty but there was a part of the system where they replaced in the summer. They sent the part to the company and had it there for a month. I kept calling American Home Shield and they said they’ll get back to us. It was one of the hottest times of the year and there was nothing to install. There was no compensation and nothing from American Home Shield. I've been a long-time customer of them and that really frustrated me. And I paid my monthly fees every month.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We bought a $13,000 front loader dryer and it isn't very good. We've been calling American Home Shield about it almost every year. Recently, we submitted a claim over the phone for that dryer and our interaction with their rep was fine. We know that we need some help and we have AHS for a long time now. One of the contractors that they were using was really slow and they blamed AHS. The other contractors were generally not like that and sometimes they were satisfying, too. Overall, we've been very satisfied with American Home Shield.
Our daughter is also using them now. I was out there yesterday while the folks were out there, too. The contractor was Best mechanic out in Hinesville and I was not really happy with how their tech worked on her garbage disposal. All he had to do was reset it, then he said it was cracked and there was a foreign object. But when I asked him where it was, he never produced it.

We had AHS send a contractor come and do some plumbing work. However, it was very difficult to get through their call system to make an appointment. They said that one could go online and make an appointment but it was very difficult to deal with because I had three problems and had to document each one. It wasn’t like you could call them and say, "I have some plumbing issues I need you to come out. Send somebody out and do these." It each had to be an individual thing and I ended up having to call them back when I wanted to add something, and so I had to go through the whole phone thing all over again.
The reps were knowledgeable. But evidently, they contract out and have different people like the plumbing outlet that they called to come. When I called AHS back to tell them that I wanted to add something, the rep said that I couldn't do that and that I had to call the contractor. That’s when I had to sit on the phone another half an hour to do that. I can’t ever get to talk to a person about anything anymore. I always get hung up on these phone things. It was very frustrating but it may have been part of the issue they said one of the times that I called when they were having problems out in the East. They said they were having heavy phone times.
We had the contractor come out two different times, for two different issues and both times they did the job correctly and did what needed to be done. There was one time they came out and fixed the washing machine, that affected everything in a positive way. And then the other time they came out, there was a problem with the showerhead. They fixed that and so the shower was functioning again.

We have a two-story home. We live in Texas and we have extreme climates from one into the other at any given season that we’re in and we have one half of our house that was not heating properly and so, my children were very cold in their rooms. We called AHS to see if we could get anyone to come out and take a look at it, and they were able to callback within that same week to set someone to come out. Submitting a claim for that was quick, but I wish I could have gone online and done it versus getting on the phone, sitting there waiting and pushing numbers until I got to speak with someone.
The actual phone call was extremely frustrating because the guy I spoke to kept saying he needed to pinpoint exactly what the problem was. I don’t have any expertise or knowledge in this trade but he was telling me I have to give him precisely where was the problem stemming from. I almost wanted to rip his head off because he said that he doesn't want to cost me more money and for them to do this and get the right person out, he needs me to figure this out. I had to call someone to come here and to tell me what I needed to tell this person so they could get the right person to come here and test. That was annoying. I don’t think it was his fault. I think it’s the business model’s assigned on how they help the customer. They didn't think that through. If people are calling and telling AHS that there’s a problem in the house, they can only tell AHS what they’re experiencing and they can’t hypothesize on what’s causing that problem.
Nevertheless, the technician who came out was nice. I was in Dallas when they gave me a heads up that the technician was on his way to our home. He was willing to work with me and that was really good. He went through on the design errors and sketched out a schematic of our heating and cooling system. Although he couldn’t fix the problem since it was a design flaw in the system not being large enough for the amount of square footage it needs to heat and cool,he was able to identify few areas that were not correct with the design.
Since I have a background with some of the heating and cooling systems because of my job, I was able to better interact with him and understand the issues that were going on with the HVAC system as far as the design-build out for our home. If I didn’t have that pre-knowledge before he came on site, that probably would’ve been a bit more difficult. I really appreciate the fact that he took the time to go up there, drew an outline to our HVAC system on a piece of paper and explained the flow of how would heating and cooling occur in our home. So, that was good and nice. On the other hand, AHS should have room for improvement for the customer experience and on how they get the technicians set up to come out.
If a friend asks me about AHS, I would tell them to definitely do it. It’s a great investment for your home. This is another reassurance that there’s a cost association for calling, which is that $75 fee, and so, it makes sure that we’re a bit more conservative with our calls for issues. If there are things that we know we can’t fix, we definitely would call to make sure those things are fixed, or someone can come out and give us a quick solution to the issue.

We had a lot of rain and we had water in the ductwork through our house. It sounded like we had a river running. I went online at 3:00 in the morning on a Sunday and I filled out the options for ductwork. But American Home Shield's website didn’t give me options to explain the hassle that was going on so I made a video. When the technician came on Monday, we didn’t have water anymore because the rain stopped, so we showed the technician the video. He first checked the furnace and he said the furnace was working fine. My husband asked him about the ductwork and he told us he didn’t know. He also said that he was glad it was not his house. Then my husband asked him who would he contact to get the ductwork fixed and the technician again said that he didn’t know. Then, he gave us the paper for my husband to sign and he left.
I told AHS what happened and they said they could send somebody else for a second opinion. I paid $125 for the first technician to come in but if the second company had the same report, AHS would charge me another $125. AHS said that our house is in a concrete slab and we didn’t have a crawl space. So the technician said he didn’t have access to the ductwork and he couldn’t see where the water was coming from and what was going on. We didn’t understand why the technician checked the furnace when it wasn’t the problem. So, we asked for the $125 back and AHS refused because the $125 covered the technician who drove to our house. It was fine but the way we were treated was a horrible experience. Right now, we are looking for somebody from the outside to come, check, and get the ductwork fixed.
When I tried to cancel my contract with AHS, the girl said, “That’s good. You canceled just in time so the money will come out of your account.” And later that day, I logged into my account again then I called back and spoke with somebody else. The lady said that my account was still active and by then it was showing a past due payment because I cancelled my debit card, called my bank, and blocked the payment. The lady said that she was going to cancel our contract but the next day I called again and spoke with five people to try to cancel my account.
Yesterday, I went on online chat with somebody from American Home Shield. The lady there said that she was going to waive the cost and my account was going to be cancelled. I wouldn’t have a contract with them anymore but once registered and I have a profile with them, there was no way to delete it. So, I had that chat saved in case they try to get money from me. From the experience I had, I already told people at my work and my family not to go with AHS at all.
I understand your concerns with the ductwork repairs that were completed and the payment withdraw after you canceled your account. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

My toilet was running and I had to replace some things in it so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I found that it was easier to do it online than over the phone since the call time was very long. I attempted to call twice and I waited for about 30 minutes then I finally hung up and put in a request online. I called the next day to ensure that the information was taken and after about 24 hours, the particular company called me. Nevertheless, the service itself was great as well as the contractor. I felt comfortable with the contractor and he explained to me what he was doing. Also, they have presented themselves very professionally every time someone has come.
American Home Shield needs to get more staff to help with the call volume especially during the summertime because if you're having problems especially with your air conditioner, the call is longer and it takes longer before people are available to come and do the repairs. You have to have patience as far as getting through because that's going to be the biggest problem. Also, you have to read the contract so that you know when you're getting the repairs done, what the warranty is going to cover and what it will not cover.

Whenever I have a service problem, I call American Home Shield first then somebody calls me. I discuss what it is, then they'll have somebody from whatever company that they pick call me. And that person comes over and then fixes whatever the problem is. The only difference is, instead of me paying the man, American Home Shield just takes the money after the service call is being set.
This is about the third time we've made a phone call for a leak under our sink and this time, I'm actually wiping water off. There was a hole that was developing in the sprayer and every time I would call American Home Shield and they send a plumber out, they couldn't find anything. Now, the hole in the sprayer has gotten larger and it goes down underneath my sink. With this recent call I made, the hole is now so large enough that I've got the sprayer down into my sink because whenever I turn on my water faucet, a stream of water shoots out of the sprayer's hose. Nevertheless, the contractor, Mike, was very nice and very professional. He came in and he saw the leak on the sprayer. He ordered the part and said that somebody from his company would call us to repair it whenever it came in. I'll anxiously be waiting for that.

He told me he was going to be here at a certain time and he was here exactly on time. He went right into my bathroom, took the part off, put the new one on and fixed the faucet for me.

I have filed two claims with American Home Shield and the most recent one was for an inoperable ceiling fan. I submitted the claim for it online and it was extremely easy to do. Their website was understandable and very user-friendly. Plus, I got a response very quickly. Also, the service in both cases was great. The contractor contacted me extremely soon after I made the request and they were very professional and responsive. I'm very impressed. AHS is a great value and it gives the homeowner peace of mind. Plus, it's very simple. It's just a set and forget type thing. It's there for you and if you ever need it, it's very convenient to use. I highly recommend it.

Our furnace stopped working during wintertime. I came home one evening and the house was not at temperature anymore. I called the American Home Shield number on the card that we have, gave my customer number, and I had a call back from a repair person probably within 20 minutes. I got in touch with the actual contractor. It was a little bit more than a difficult situation for him. When I made the claim and he called back to me, it was well after 10 PM. I chose to have him wait till the first thing in the morning before he came over. Although he was willing to come out in the middle of the night, I said we would fend for ourselves during that amount of time. The furnace is now working fantastically since it was repaired. I would certainly recommend American Home Shield. They are well worth the money and their responsiveness and ability to help out in the times when you really need them was excellent.

It was freezing up outside and there was an issue with my heating. I created a ticket with American Home Shield and it was easy doing it. It got assigned to a company, but I had done a recall on the ticket and then rescheduled the appointment with the company to come back and look at it. The experience was good. When the AHS contractors come, I tell them what I deployed on my fee. They then do the diagnoses and then they’ll tell me what part that needs to be ordered. Then, they will come back and do the job. Sometimes, the companies that work for AHS are good, but the people working there and those who come and do the job are not knowledgeable enough. Other times, the company itself is not good and no matter how good the person is, they’re not trying to solve the problem and they're not honest. They would say "This is not covered" and they simply try to make money. Those just small things, but they make a big task out of it.

We had a leak in our plumbing and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. We did it online and it went very smoothly, nicely and effectively. The contractor was okay and seemed knowledgeable. At first, I said I needed to punch a hole in the wall to have an access from the inside and then go underneath. He said that he could do it the easy way without having to go underneath. He did a good job and minimized the process. Moreover, he didn't damage the wall. I have three different coverages from American Home Shield and I'm very happy with them.
Hello, Mr & Mrs. Eslamy. I am so glad that they did not have to make any access openings and were able to figure out another way to complete the repairs needed.

My heater went out on a weekend and that was in winter. I called American Home Shield to make a claim and the technician they sent was here on Tuesday. Then they called me and said that according to the tech, the heat pump wasn’t worn out but was due to some other defect. It had to be worn out for them to fix it. But it was not working, so it must have been worn out. And AHS told me the only thing they could do was to send somebody else out here and I had to pay them another $75. But I didn't have money to do things like that. Then the technician called me back and told me that he could fix it if I pay him $800. We still don't have any heat and I'm really dissatisfied with AHS.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your heat pump repaired. I will be sending you an email to provide you with my contact information to get the issues resolved.

I have been very pleased with American Home Shield's service because their customer service is really excellent. Some leak was identified in the home that is covered under American Home Shield's warranty so I reached out to them. They arranged for someone to come and inspect the problem, and there were two separate companies that came because they wanted a second opinion. But once the report was filed with American Home Shield, I did not get any notification so I reached out to them yesterday. They were waiting for the feedback from the vendors that they used before they could contact me. But the rep also immediately called the vendor that was authorized to work on this issue, left them a message and sent them an email. Sure enough, a little later, I got a call from them saying that the work can be immediately started and the vendor also called me.
This was not the first time either. I've got some other interactions with AHS and they've done a very good job in each of these cases. Their communication is very good. Whenever you speak to someone on the phone, they make sure they take care of the issue and they get the questions addressed. It's something you would expect from a company providing the service but I think they are very good. If people are looking for these services, they most definitely should consider American Home Shield.

I recently filed claims with American Home Shield for the AC unit, the ceiling fan and the garage opener. They sent somebody who fixed the heater and the garage door opener. I didn’t have the time that time for the ceiling fan, so I told them I wanna reschedule it for another time. So, they cancelled the claim. Then when I called back they told me that I had to pay another $75. But why? I already paid $75 for those two things. It was supposed to be one claim. Then I talked to the manager and they finally fixed the issue.
The reps said that they were gonna take care of it, but it took a little longer because the $75 was still showing past due in my account when I log in on the AHS website. And they sent me a letter in the mail, saying that I still owe them $75. It was a little disappointing that they did that. I never had that kind of bad experience with them before. I’ve been with them since 2012. When I logged in on their website yesterday though, it wasn’t showing that $75 past due anymore. They finally took care of it. The contractors were great people. When they come in they always take care of the problems. AHS always sends great people. AHS is a great company to work with. Since the repair, everything is working well, so far.

Then I got a text right away with the company that would be coming out. They said it could be up to 24 hours, which was kind of concerning because I was leaving town that day. But they reached out and they came within four hours of the claim being submitted. I got a text statement that my tech was en route, and they had a link that I could click on and see their location real-time, which was really cool. The contractor was friendly and fast. The heat was easily repaired and he was in and out in 30 minutes. He had to replace my thermostat and something on my furnace that had gone out as well. It was a really great experience. It was quick, painless and everything you would want it to be. I would recommend AHS.

The heater/air conditioner unit for the downstairs portion of the house stopped working. It's not super cold here in Las Vegas but it's getting cold enough that the downstairs is uncomfortable. I diagnosed it and something was going on then I realized that the heater was not coming on. So I contacted American Home Shield online and put in a request then somebody called me. I was asked when I was available and they scheduled the whole thing. Somebody came out a couple of days after and I was called right before the technician was supposed to come out to let me know he's coming.
I told the contractor what was going on. I told him how to get to the air conditioner because it's on the roof and which of the air conditioners was the one that wasn't working. I've got an engineering background so I told him what I thought it was. He went up the roof and looked at it and said that the pilot light wasn't lighting on the heater. He replaced the part which took all about 45 minutes to an hour. After that, he told me it was done and that it was working. We checked it out and it was running fine. Then he gave me some paperwork to sign and he was gone. Since the repair, it's just as good as I can think it is but it doesn't seem to have any problems. I would recommend American Home Shield. I haven't had a problem with them. They're very timely and it's not super expensive.

He ordered that, came back again, and replaced the motor. Everything seems to be fine now except during the process, the bottom of the dishwasher door got dents and was sort of leaking but they got that fixed. There were quite a few things that were wrong with the toilet in my guest bathroom, so I called American Home Shield and they called Hudgins Plumbing to come out. The first time I called, I got the automated system. I don't think I ever talked on the phone with a live person.
Also, took Hudgins three times to come and fix my toilet. The first time, their plumber was a couple of minutes late. The second time, he was about five hours late. He was supposed to be here at 9:30, but he showed up at 3:30. My wife had to go pick my son late. Also, the plumber didn't fix the issue anyway. I told my wife what was wrong with it so she could tell him, but I didn't think we would have to explain fully to the plumber what was going on. I told him that it was not flushing properly and that it was not filling up properly. Moreover, when it fills up, it just ran non-stop. I thought that would have been enough information for him to fix it. However, every time I arrived back at the house, I would flush the toilet and one of those three issues would happen every time. The last time that he came out, I was on the phone with him while he fixed the issue, which I shouldn't have had to do.
I know there's going to be a $75 deductible every time I call AHS and have them to come out. I make sure I go through whatever issue that I have and make sure that it's going to cost above $75 to have it checked. I've had to use it three times. I've had to use it for my garbage disposal, my air conditioning unit and my toilet. With my AC unit, I asked the contractor how much it would have cost if I didn't have American Home Shield. It was about $750, so I paid $75 for a $750 job, which was good. I tell all of my counterparts to get AHS. Getting it is definitely worthwhile.

American Home Shield did a wonderful job. They were able to address our issue the same day. We were going to close our house the next day and we were having issues with our furnace so the home shield that we had, called The Enforcer, acted immediately. The issue was addressed and we were so grateful. They did a great job. We filed the claim over the phone because we wanted action on an emergency basis. Otherwise, we would not be able to close our house the following day because of that issue. My insurance agent and his dad helped us to be able to find somebody who could help us ASAP. We have been with our agent for quite a while and he has been a wonderful Farmers Agent.
I’m recommending American Home Shield to our friends and inviting them to get one like that. It surely helped us so I’ll spread the word. I asked them if they have this type of insurance. I told them that in case something happens to their furnace or AC or other appliances in the house, American Home Shield is the best ones to have. It doesn’t cost much. Ours is $43 a month and it’s worth it. They don’t have to worry in case something happens on an emergency basis. It’s very expensive if they don’t have one so I gave them my Farmers Insurance agent’s business card.

Our heat pump messed up and I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone. I spoke with someone who assigned somebody out. I read some bad reviews about the contractor company and I called to try to get it change but they weren’t allowed to change. But the guy from the company that came on out was great and I left them a good review. He was very professional, courteous and he fixed it for like 15 minutes. Everything is still working fine since the repair. However, when I chose the option to have the $100 deductible be taken out of my account within 48 hours of the repair, it didn’t come out for a week. They had my account and they just had to do it directly. I called and I was on hold forever. I said, “Okay, I'll take it that they take it." They took it out two weeks after the repair and then I got an email stating that my account is delinquent.
I called them up, was on hold for quite a while and told them that I knew they'll take it out on that date. And the rep goes, “Oh, yeah. I see that now.” I asked him to send me an email now stating that they received payment since they've already sent an email stating that they didn’t. But he said that they don’t do that and asked me to call back a week. Two days later I get a bill of the delinquency in the mail. It came on Saturday so I’m not calling back but the guy told me when I called them that it could take up to a week to have it cleared on my account so I assumed that the letter got sent before the call. I like them to send me some statement that I’m not delinquent and never was a delinquent. If they could send me an email saying that I have to pay, how about sending an email stating that I did? And I want to know that I had a promise that they fix it for this deal. But other than that I've used them twice and it worked out okay.

My heater upstairs was not functioning during the cold snap, and so I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone. The interaction that I had with the reps was very routine. They set up the service, which I've had two, and both of the services went smoothly. Originally, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out came in for that and then they determined it was an electrical problem. The only issue was the second service, and somehow the electrician didn't understand and thought it had been canceled or completed. So, I waited a week before calling Home Shield back again to say that no one ever followed up with me and they got the contractor to the phone and got them out to see me the next day.
In both situations, the contractors were very professional. They came in, and they worked quickly. The first one determined that it really wasn't an air conditioning malfunction. We went through all the diagnostics and decided it was the circuit breaker having a malfunction that required an electrician. Then we got that guy out there and he figured out they were just loose and he tightened them up. There was a breakdown between American Home Shield and the electrician, but the contractor came right out and presumably, it's fixed. American Home Shield then sent me a bill for $75 for the second service when I've been told that it wouldn't be, and I was talking to them and they rescinded that. It's still on the books but it's already been agreed that I'm not to pay the second one. I'm okay with it, and ultimately, I got things handled.
By the time I got all this fixed, the weather wasn’t cold anymore, but I was dragging my feet a bit getting the service going when it was still very cold. But I lived through it. I have the heater on a few times and everything worked just fine and I've had no repeat issues. It's always a bit of a mixed bag with American Home Shield because I sometimes had experiences where I felt like I was paying a lot and it was exactly what I should have been doing. I've called a couple of other companies on my own before because I was concerned that the people coming out were really about to save Home Shield money and not me get fixed. I've had some issues, but I've been doing this for 20 years with American Home Shield, and I wouldn't keep doing this if I didn't feel like it was an acceptable service and it's certainly a way to mitigate the risk of high expenses.
I've only got one thing that hasn't been replaced, and that's the downstairs heating/air conditioning. I had the upstairs replaced and within six months it had problems, and then six months later, it had problems again. But the one that's downstairs and 35 years old is working like a charm. So, my only issue is the quality of equipment that we get when we finally have something break down. I've had someone look at the unit and go, "Well, they had me do things in here. So, I figured I got a really old unit as opposed to a really good unit.” With American Home Shield, you can pay for many decades and then maybe not just the quality you need. After the six months, nobody gave me any kind of consideration of the equipment, and I've had problems with it every year, so it's not a good equipment. I've got one more thing to go, and hopefully, when it goes, American Home Shield will do the right thing and take care of it.

Moreover, they were nice, knowledgeable and professional. I like them and I'd use them again. Everything got taken care of and fixed like it should be. However, I ended up having to pay $700 out of my pocket to get the water heater fixed. When you use a home warranty, they're always going to find something else to add on to make you pay outside the home warranty.
American Home Shield's communication could be better. They could also describe what they cover and everything that was going on better. They were supposed to call me back about an AC problem but I haven't had any contact back. When I called them, it took them a week to get back to me. I'm not happy. I eventually just went up there, fixed it myself and paid everything out of pocket, even though I had to pay them $200 for nothing.

Submitting the claim online had been seamless and then the contractor would call me and tell me when he would be there and we were all good to go. AHS like to include all the options that are on every contract level. It was nice that all the options were there and it made for great sales gimmick, but it was a little disappointing because I thought my garage door opener was covered as I read through the contract but apparently, that was on a level that I did not purchase. My built-in dishwasher started leaking water onto the kitchen floor. So, I submitted the claim to American Home Shield and they said they would have the company that they contract with call me in a few days. The company called and they sent somebody out. He said there were two things wrong but they didn't have the part. They will get that part and he'd be back. It took a week between his first visit and the second visit. It would have been bad had I not figured out that using a different cycle on the dishwasher did not cause it to leak. So, I went ahead and continue using the dishwasher. I’m the only one in the house so I only wash dishes twice and during that, I didn’t have any leaks.
Then, there was only one little bad thing that happened. When the contractor came out, the two parts that needed replacement were the seal around the door and a pump. And when he had me signed the paper, I asked to see the pump so that I could see what was wrong even though I know nothing about pumps. He said he didn’t have any pump. But on the worksheet that he had, it said that those two things were to be replaced. He remembered there was another box in the car so he went back out and got the second piece. He replaced the pump and showed me the old pump. If I didn’t have my brain, I could have been taken advantage of.
That aside, the contractor treated me fine. He did the repair properly with a little encouragement from me. And everybody makes mistakes but I’d have to be on the ball. The dishwasher is fine now and it’s not leaking at all. I used the cycle that caused it to leak before. The repair was a minor effect on me having to only use the regular cycle and not the pots and pan cycle. I'm glad I have AHS. I'll continue to keep it because now all of my appliances are 10 years old and they aren’t good and well. They're all gonna start failing.

They gave me a botched-up patched job and I'm still having to live with that. They didn't float the sealant like they said and they were trying to upsell me. But the last one they sent was perfect. He had to come back twice to fix the issue. The first time, he just tightened it and he thought it was fixed. But then, he came back and he put a new replacement. Now, it's working well and not leaking.
There's also a problem getting through their lines. There's a terrible waiting time. Sometimes, I'm there 30 minutes to an hour and a half. I also pay them but they don't receive it on time because they're not posted correctly. I've been staying with American Home Shield but hadn't been very happy with all of the vendors that they've sent me. I've had to make complaints at times about that. I've had a problem with my microwave and they replaced it. However, the people who came out didn't get the measure correctly, so the microwave they got was too small for the space. It's also not the same quality than the old microwave I had.
Then, I had a problem with my AC. They just patched and patched it up and it went out. They then made me buy $6000 unit on my own and only give me $250 for it. That was my last straw. I'm still making my payments to them but when I find another company that I would consider switching to, more than likely, I would be doing that.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We've been with American Home Shield for quite some time and in the past, I've had some issues. It was to the point where we thought about canceling because of the contractors that were coming. We had some issues with our central air conditioning and the contractors that they sent out weren’t very trustworthy. One of them went in our attic, didn’t do too much, came out and then told American Home Shield the maintenance wasn’t taken care of. We, in turn, hired someone to come out and they gave us great feedback and said that everything was maintained. So, I had to end up sending not only the person that we paid out-of-pocket their information to American Home Shield, but I also wrote a letter and kept a file on everything that had to do with the house.
Then on our refrigerator, we had the same issue and they kept fixing the same thing over and over every year. They would fix it and for them, it was better to continue to fix it. But I was thinking that we needed a new refrigerator and we had to come out-of-pocket to buy one. American Home Shield didn’t do anything about it. I don’t even recall an apology. And it's frustrating when I pay for something every month and I end up having to pay even more on my own when it's something that they should have covered. Also, it could be frustrating when my claim gets denied and I don’t know why.
But as of late, everything has been going fine. The latest claim that we had with American Home Shield was for our toilet but before that, we also had one for our kitchen stove. It has been very easy submitting claims and the contractors usually come really quick. My husband dealt with the appliance issue. The contractors needed a part for it but we ended up calling them because it had been over a week. They came after we called them, put in the part and everything was fine and fixed. We have an extra burner to use so it’s helpful. With the bathroom issue, I dealt with the young man who was very nice. He explained what was going on and what he was going to do. I would tell others that if they have a home that’s not brand-new and it doesn’t have new appliances, it's definitely worth it and beneficial to have American Home Shield. In fact, I've told some of my sisters, my neighbor and several people on getting it.

Our heater was broken, so we called American Home Shield and they were going to send someone out. It took a little while because the weather was really bad. It was snowing, so AHS had lots of calls to handle. I told them that we didn’t need to be put on a priority because we had a fireplace and portable radiators. When the contracting company got out here, the technician took a look at the heater and made a diagnosis, and they had to order a part. Then the person who came back out to fix it found that the first diagnosis was not correct. He had to order another part, and then the part came and it wasn’t the right part, and then they got the right part and they came back. But the guy who installed it forgot to re-plug something back in and our air conditioning wasn’t working, then another person came out to fix that.
It was an unnecessary chain of events, but one of the technicians, Ronnie, was really good. He was the one who found the real problem and he found the thing that was disconnected and was able to fix it. He ordered the right part we needed and then installed it correctly. He was wonderful. The other person they kept sending out didn't exactly know what was going on and what he was doing, so that was creating some problems. Had AHS just sent Ronnie out from the start and each time the parts came in, we probably wouldn’t have had everything stretched out as far as it was. But overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend Ronnie.

The contractor called before he came like he said he would. We own a business so my husband was able to run home and meet him at the time. He said the contractor was a really nice guy. The contractor got right down to it and didn’t waste a lot of time. He changed the thermostat and we were good to go. It was great. I was just talking about American Home Shield the other day and that I do not understand why other people don’t have it. Somebody said to me that they had to replace something and I said that if they had American Home Shield, they wouldn’t be going through that nonsense.

We all had the A/C set at 72 but the temperature around the house remained at 80 so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online but I didn’t know if I was going to be charged again so I also called in and they were very nice and patient over the phone. The contractor who came was also nice and he seemed to know what he was talking about. Prior to him coming, our A/C started working properly again but he checked everything to make sure everything was intact. He said that everything was fine and he encouraged us to call back if we have the same issue so they can come out and check it again. My experience was great and I appreciate everything that American Home Shield did right.

I usually call American Home Shield over the phone when filing a claim and it's usually an extraordinarily long process. It's a long hold to get someone with the machine although this latest time, it wasn’t that bad of a wait. We filed a claim for our pool and we had one company that came out before and a different one the latest time. The first time we called in, the guy came, looked at the thing and left. He wrote up stuff to AHS, and then they denied the claim. He didn’t touch, measure, or fix anything. And then, I asked for a copy of what he wrote and he said that the company was going to send it to me and that I should talk to the company. I called the company four times and left messages but no one ever called back and I never got a copy.
I spoke to AHS and explained to them that I have a contract with AHS and not with whomever they sent out here because I didn’t sign a contract with whomever they sent out. I asked for a copy of whatever was written up but to date, I have not gotten any and I've called American Home Shield over seven times. The company that came out the latest was a 99% improvement over the one that had come out the first time. Their guy fixed the issue with the pump.
We bought a house and the pool had a few things that were wrong with it. The pool was covered in my AHS contract, at least when I signed it. It didn’t specifically say pool skimmer but it says the pool is covered. It had a price and we paid. There's huge frustration here and I would love to be able to sit down with someone and go over the contract that I signed because it basically does not have details. It tells me stuff like electrical and plumbing are covered. But it's a broad and open scope. I have a copy of what I signed and it was three pages. They sent me something that was five pages and it had a bit more details. We bought a package that was supposed to cover the spa and pool and we got both.
The funny thing about it was there was another guy who I didn’t pay one cent to, but he fixed the light in the pool and did something simple with the wire and it was definitely above ground because he didn’t touch the pool. He went in the box and was able to fix the thing. I pay AHS $75 for the service for their tech to come out and he should be able to do just that. I even ended up with a different section at AHS and spoke to them more than five times. They are the ones who approve whatever the contractor says. I've spoken to at least two supervisors there. One lady really pissed me off because I explained to her that I called up at least four times before calling her to ask about getting a copy of what the company wrote up. She said the company was going to send it to me.
At first, they said they were going to email it, and an email doesn’t take more than a day. Then, they said they're going to email it again, now she was saying it will be sent through the mail. She added that it's only been two days, and that mail normally takes over four days, and to give them a couple more days. I kept coming back but it hasn’t shown up. Other than those, there was an AC guy who came out before and he was good. A plumbing guy also came out and fixed an issue. I would tell my friends the pool story and I'll them what they sign is not exactly what AHS honors. AHS should tell us what is not covered, to begin with, so we’ll know what we’re buying.

I had a problem with my washer a couple of weeks ago and I called AHS to submit a claim. This was done automated on the phone, so it was fine. Our appointment was set up for a week and a half later, so we couldn't wash anything for that amount of time. I called the contractor that AHS had assigned to us, which was Sears, a day before the appointment and he told me that he would be here between 8:00 and 10:00. At 8:16 the next morning, the guy called and told me that he'd be here in 30 minutes. He did a great job in fixing the unit quickly and efficiently, and its performance has been excellent since the repair. I'd tell a friend that AHS is well worth the money.

If a friend would ask about American Home Shield, I would recommend them. My wife submitted a claim online because our dryer started squealing really bad. We got an email saying Suffolk Appliance was going to do it. It was a Friday when we submitted the claim, so nobody got in touch with us until Monday. I ended up calling them, although the guy said he was ready to call me. Also, I have dealt with Suffolk Appliance before we had American Home Shield so I knew them and it worked good. When the technician came, he diagnosed the problem but he didn't have the part with him. So he told me he'd be back in about two days to do it. But he ended up calling the next day to tell me he got the part and asked if he could swing by and put it on. I called my mother-in-law and called him back. She met him over there, and he replaced the pulley, which ended up being the bad part on the dryer, and she signed the paperwork for us.

We have a furnace and the firelight wouldn't stay lit. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and we had them come out three times for the same issue. On the third time, they decided that it was a different tech and he decided that it was not functioning properly so he shut everything off. So we're waiting right now with the claims process. I have only met two contractors and they have been really professionals. The one whose name was Keith did a good job.
Although, we paid the money upfront and then the issue happened again within a month so they came back out again. Other than that, we signed up for American Home Shield for the basic. If one of our appliances was broken or needed a fix, they would either fix it or replace it. In this particular item, there are different tiers of levels you can buy, but the item that was to be replaced was going to cost twice as much out of pocket as it is for the item that's being replaced. In the end, we were going to have to pay $2,000 and we're stuck with that right now. We don't know if we should try to get other quotes from companies that are affiliated with American Home Shield and see if their quote was really high.

I filed a claim submitted to American Home Shield due to a drain pipe in the home, which had separated from an adjoining drain pipe. The drain pipe was under the home and the home is raised 2 ½ feet off the ground. What the pipe drained turned out to be a health hazard, and it took the contractor approximately four days to get here. I was surprised because he said they would call when he was on the way, and he did. And it turned out, I was the one who was way out of position to be at home when he got there. The tech had enough information that he was able to locate the leak and the pipes that had separated and was probably 75% done with the job when I was able to finally show up. He was on site for 40 minutes at most, and it was an immediate response. This was my first venture into this warranty company, and everything seems to be holding well. The claim was something that needed to be done, it got done and I’m happy with it.

The service I got on my claims with AHS was fine, so far. I recently called in for a plumbing service and my interaction with their rep was nice. I had a couple of issues with plumbing in my kitchen and the contractor they sent took care of them. Some rubber had broken off in the faucet in my kitchen so the water was trickling out. They unscrewed the end of the tap and cleaned the plastic out of it. The thing needed to be replaced because it started doing that again. But because I had watched him unscrew it and take the plastic out, I just unscrewed it and kept it off.
The third issue was my bathroom tub, which needed to be unclogged. It was leaking and he said he didn't know the problem. But the female that was with him said that it's clogged right where the pipe is separating. But he didn't unclog it. He said he was going to submit a claim and he would go back to me, but he didn't and AHS wouldn't cover it. The plumber gave me a person that's separate from him to do the work.
I called in to catch up my account and reinstate it. The rep said it was going to be $75 for the plumber to come out so I gave her my card information. Later that day, I've seen a transaction for $55. When I got home, my husband got the bill from them and I had a bill for $10 left. I thought that they had compensated each other in that way. But it turns out, they had taken a payment for the next month. Then, the plumber wasn't paid.
When I called to find out why didn't anybody tell me that was going to happen, I had to get connected to somebody else which I never finished the connections because I had to go to work. I have never resolved it. I also had an experience wherein I was not sure what was covered when I needed a hot water tank. Their reps say that the hot water tank is covered and then when you get into the details of it, it's not.

American Home Shield sent someone out to fix my washing machine in November. At the time, they had to order a part and that took over a month to get. Then when the tech put that part in, my washing machine worked for about two days then it started running water and water was all over the washing room. I called back to have him come back out and he said that he had to order a drum. When he fixed that, the washing machine worked for a couple of days. I had to call back again last week because it was still leaking.
American Home Shield said that I had to wait until the tech comes out but the technician said it was up to AHS. He was here on Friday and he said he had to order another part. Supposedly, the tech was going to get with me today but he had to talk to his supervisor and I haven’t heard from anyone. This is the first time I’ve had a problem though. The contractors have otherwise generally been excellent.
I’ve always had good service from American Home Shield until recently. It is also so difficult to get someone from AHS to talk to me. When I call, I’m on hold for about 30 minutes. Then when that person answers, she puts me on hold to call the company that was doing the service so I’m still on hold. Right now, nothing has been taken care of. I’ve been without a washer since November and I've been going to the laundromat.

I always ask for American Home Shield's service over the phone. I have 19 houses which I manage and I was using another home warranty company for a couple of them. That home warranty company's phone waiting time was only seven or ten minutes. For American Home Shield, sometimes I've had to wait half an hour and that's too long.
Also, at one time, my tenant didn't like American Home Shield. The heater had a problem and I couldn't reach the repair company on a weekend. They don't answer the phone. But, my tenant called American Home Shield and they switched the repair to another company which did the work very fast. So, we're very happy and that's why I renew and renew again.
We don't have too many problems because I don't choose houses that are too old for me. I don't want to get too many repairs and have a problem. Before, the sale was very good. AHS could give some discounts. Right now they cannot give me anything so I didn't renew two other houses. Still, for a couple of my houses, I stayed with American Home Shield. I used to live in North Carolina and I had American Home Shield there. I moved to Virginia and I have them here. I have a rental property, and I have them on there too. So far, I have an open claim for my washer. And the last one I filed was for the turn-off valve for the water to the house. I tried filing it online, but it wasn't doing what I needed it to do so I just did it on the phone. Their reps were good. They took the information about the item and gave me a number. However, I had to wait, wait, wait for someone to finally pick up the phone. Every time I call, I have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I put the phone on speaker and just waited it out.
So far, the contractors I've had seemed to be good, except for two complaints. Today, someone came for the leak around the shut-off valve. I thought he would change the shut-off valve, but he just sprayed some WD-40, turned the valve, and said it was done. I'm not expecting that to last. I can guarantee I'll be calling them back on it. My worst experience was when our furnace went out when it was really cold here in Virginia. I called and the guy came out. I was his last call for the day. He was there for about 10 minutes and did a quick fix. He didn't really investigate the deep problem. He changed something out and it worked for a day and then, it went out again.
I was without heat for at least three days because they couldn't get anyone. I guess they were too busy to come out and do it right away. I kept asking, "What happened to the emergency service?" It was 12 below and no one came out, so I had to use my oven to keep heating my house until someone finally came out. Whatever they did when they finally came out seems like it's working fine. Instead of getting right the first time, there has always been a callback and they've had to come out a second time. But at least they don't charge us a second fee. AHS is worth it. It may cost, but to get the repairs done costs even more. I've recommended AHS before.

When I need to get somebody from American Home Shield to talk to, sometimes it's a problem. There's a 40 minutes wait problem and it happens more often than that. I talked to a few people that all gave me a different answer to the same question I asked so that was quite confusing. But the service, as far as getting somebody out here was very good. It was quick.
But in the middle of winter, I had a furnace problem. The people that they sent here made me wait for four days in below freezing temperature and that wasn’t very nice. They didn’t give me any feedback about what was going on and I had to keep calling the furnace people to find out if they were coming, when they were coming, and what was going on. When the contractor first came out, I asked if I could get somebody else out here. I didn't know these people. But I was told that they were the only one in the area and was the only one that AHS could send.
The contractors didn’t fix the problem the first time so the second time, I called the contractor and not American Home Shield because the contractor said that if I had any problems to call them instead of AHS. The contractor came out again but it was a different problem so it didn’t work. The third time, which I did through AHS, the contractors came out and they decided the furnace needed to be replaced.
But I thought that the people were coming here and AHS didn't know what was going on. I called AHS to ask what was going on. They were in charge of getting people over here as normal. When they wanted to charge me another $100 fee because that was what they paid when someone came up because they thought they were coming out on something on me later, I told them it was actually for the same thing. The contractors had been out here a couple of times but AHS just didn’t know about it.
Now, I’m getting emails at least once a month telling me that I have a $100 cash due for having somebody come out to my house. I talked to AHS three times about me getting the email because every time I got it, they thought I was in trouble. But they said that they didn't see anything wrong, not to worry about it and to disregard the email. I told them I could disregard it but the day could come when they would tell me that they were not coming out because I didn’t pay that $100 fee when I didn't actually owe it. I would appreciate it if they could fix that. They said it wasn't a problem. So that was never fixed and two weeks ago, I received another email saying I owe $100.
The contractors putting in the furnace charged AHS to put in the furnace and then they charged me another $725. They told AHS that $125 was for a permit so they could do the work in the house, $125 was for a modification for electricity, and $250 to put in some sheet metal. Meanwhile, I was thinking that they had to do all this stuff anyway so I wondered why they were charging extra. But I didn’t say anything about it. When the guy came in, I asked if they really had to get a permit to work on the furnace in my house. The guy said they had to do that.
But when I called the county that issues the permit one day and I asked if one needed to have a permit to put in a new furnace, they said no. I asked if they could check and see if the contractor's company requested a permit for a furnace in my house for the month of January and the lady there told me they didn't give a permit for that and that I didn't need one. It turned out that the furnace guys charged me $125 for a permit that they didn’t get. They lied about it to AHS and to me. I sent the furnace people an email saying, in a very nice way, that I was going to give them an opportunity to make it straight before I called AHS and told AHS that they were ripping both of us off. But they never answered me, numerous times. So I called AHS, told them the problem and they said they would take care of it. I also told them I didn't want those people in my house anymore.
I talked to this lady at AHS and she wanted to know if I can give her the phone number of the county where they would get the permit. I did that and I talked to her, which was very nice. We talked for about 20 minutes and she got a whole bunch of information. Three days later I received a letter in the mail saying that AHS doesn’t cover modifications, add-ons or permits. I didn’t call about that so they messed that up. I called AHS back last Monday and I told them what was going on. I went through the whole story again and I told the lady about the letter. She said I that should never have gotten that letter and that she was going to take care of it herself.
I told her that if she wanted to have the guys who were responsible at AHS for these vendors in the area, she could come over and see what they did and I would be glad to show her exactly what I was talking about. I have some receipts from the furnace company which they gave to me when they were here. When I requested them to give me an itemized one, they took the permit off and just sent me the same thing with a different date. The lady at AHS said that if they couldn't get the contractor to send me the money then they will send me the money. That happened sometimes and she would call me back in two days. But it’s been a week and I haven’t heard from them.

I submitted my claim to AHS online, which I tend to do since when I call in, it can sometimes be a very long wait. Doing it online has been faster, easier and better. However, sometimes it won't find my account right away. But, then I found it in one of the other options there.
The contractors were outstanding. They were probably the best I've had in all these years. They were really on top of things electronically and communicated incredibly well. They came out on a Saturday evening because it was very cold and we were using the space heater to keep my dad warm. They were super responsive and very quick. The heating system is working great now.
When there was a problem with a service contractor not being able to come out for many days, I tried to get through to AHS in order to ask them to send someone else because I cannot wait seven days for somebody to come out. However, I had other issues such as a dishwasher leak that the technician didn’t find the first time. I did a bunch of other things and then they finally came back a second time. And I paid $75 twice and that wasn’t so good. Somebody from my homeowner's association figured out what was wrong. He rolled out the dishwasher and saw where the leak was coming from. Once they identified that, the technician AHS sent was speedy and was able to fix it.
I’ve had appliance issues where it took way too long for AHS to schedule an appointment. They were putting me two weeks out on the appliance, and it was a very long wait to get someone on the phone, too. I’ve waited more than half an hour and I almost never got anybody directly. But today's wait was only about 10 minutes and that wasn’t so bad.
I had them replace my water heater and that went fine and they're going to replace my refrigerator, so that’s nice. I renewed my contract with them for another year, but there are quite a few service problems. They don't have enough appliance technicians to deal with the calls. I'm supposed to get service within three days but that wasn’t the case on my appliances. They only have one technician, and he runs two or three weeks behind. But yet, they took the $75 out of my account. That has been almost two months ago and I called and called and they didn’t seem to want to give me my money back. It seems funny that every time I call American Home Shield to find out why I have not been credited my $75 for service that was never done, I get this phone call but it doesn't seem to be a reference to that.
They keep telling me it will take up to 21 days. But, it has been over 21 days and then they put me on hold and say they've submitted another whatever it is they need to submit to get my credit but nothing ever happened. I called back and there was nothing that could be done, which was fine, so I canceled and rescheduled. I filed a claim online for an oven repair and American Home Shield sent somebody out. The contractor fixed it but shortly after, it broke. I had to re-file it and the contractor came again, took the faulty piece out and sent it to American Home Shield for repair. Then the part got sent back to the repair company who then came back to install it. My understanding is the contractors get a lot of pushback from American Home Shield to fix things cheap. And from the first repair to the final repair, after it broke again, the whole process took about four months.
In addition to that, American Home Shield never reached out to me and I could not reach them by phone because the wait times are usually an hour and then I would get somebody who doesn’t know anything. So if I cannot fix it online, I just give up and get a real repair guy because the quality of the repair people that AHS sends out is absolutely not more than mediocre. If I would have something big, I'd probably pay more and get somebody to fix it well. Also, it's so impossible to communicate with American Home Shield and I wanted to cancel my account. The other occasion that I used AHS was when my washing machine was not putting cold water. The gentleman who came said that I hooked it up wrong. Both gentlemen were totally professional and their response was timely. They made sure everything was right before they left so I was very pleased. I called in both claims for I’m not fond of doing it online as I’m old. Either of the issues didn't fall under the category that was covered since both were just service calls and not real problems. I am satisfied with AHS and I’m renewing it for the second year. I’d tell a friend or family member never to buy an appliance without having AHS for at least the first year.

Our dryer has been having issues and I keep calling American Home Shield, saying our dryer's still broken. So they submit a recall. The part that is annoying is that some of the contractors that they work with are not nice. They hang up on me and say, "Well, you have to call American Home Shield. They're really hard to get a hold of." It's not so much American Home Shield that I have an issue with but it's the contractors and how we need to work with them.
The contractor came out and said, "Yeah, I do hear the squeak. " He got it running but it's still squeaking and he said, "I'll order the parts and we'll get a hold of you." I never heard back from the contractors so I called them but they kept putting me on hold. Then, they got on the phone and they said that if the dryer is working, they won't come back for squeaks. I also found out from the contractor that AHS is not going to cover a squeak in the dryer. AHS needs to follow through on the claims and needs to have better communication with the customers because we hear one thing from the contractor but then, we never hear if AHS denies it or what. I would suggest to my friends to shop around for other home warranty companies.
I understand your concerns with the lack of communication you have experienced and the repairs that were made to correct the dryer issue. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

Two of my refrigerators went out at around the same time and filing a claim for them with American Home Shield on the phone went fairly smooth. The contractor replaced the board on the first fridge but I was not pleased with him because he was not communicating with me. It took over a month and a half to get it resolved, and I told AHS not to send him out again. But the second contractor that came out was very responsive, knowledgeable and really helpful. My second fridge went totally dead and AHS replaced it with a pretty comparable unit. AHS does the job and they do it fairly well. I’m very satisfied and I've recommended them to a couple of people.

American Home Shield has been prompt in sending someone out as soon as I contact them. I like to contact them on the phone because I'm always worried about the online thing being lost. But the problem with calling them is that it takes a long time to get answered and I’m put on hold for a long time. I've had several incidences over the last four years that we've owned this home and they've always got things fixed. The issue that I've had was I didn’t realize that I was covered with the fans in my home but we changed several of the fans quite a while ago. I didn’t try to get that back but two of the fans stopped working well. One stopped working altogether so I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out.
Before I knew that it was covered, I had bought a replacement fan thinking that whoever came out, I'd had to pay for that if it had to be fixed and if the fan had to be changed, it would be right there. They wouldn't have to come a second time because I already had it, and then I could just return it if I didn’t need it. I had to pay for the guy to come out for the first time and I understood that. He came out and he determined that the fan could not be fixed so he put the fan up. He went to check out the other one and it needed to be changed also so I told him I wasn’t going buy it because I needed to get the money back from the other fan, which I was never able to do. They told me over and over they would get something sent to me but I never got a payback for the other fan.
I called the guy that was going to come back out and it took several phone calls back and forth for him to finally be able to go and buy the fan. I picked it out and they approved the price. He brought the fan, and put it up. The issue I'm having right now is when the guy came back to put up the fan, they were trying to bill me for that it because they said it was a new request. But it was not. We just had trouble getting it done so they had to be called several times by both the electrician and myself. When I called American Home Shield, one lady said she fixed it but I got another bill about a month later.
We are having trouble getting American Home Shield to pay for the fan for some reason. They've paid for everything else with no problem. It was a confusing situation but there are several different parts of the company and one does not communicate with the other well enough because one person would tell me they were making a request for me to get my money back for the fan that I paid for. That never happened and I called several times. This will be about my fifth call to tell them I'm not paying for another trip from the electrician because it was actually his second trip to fix the fan. He had already determined it needed to be fixed. This is a complicated one and I have been discouraged about it. But every other time, I've had several things fixed by American Home Shield. I've had a disposal that stopped working and they bought a new one and put it on. I've had trouble with plumbing that they fixed, and they also replaced our water heater that was not working well.
They usually do okay and I don't know what's happening but this one has been a problem. My biggest complaint for when I've gotten good service was it's a long time on the phone. They sign contracts with good providers, both electricians and plumbers whom I've had come out. They have very good quality and they respond quickly when I call in for service. My only problem has been when I screwed up and bought stuff, and I should have not done that. Whatever you need fixing, if it's on the plan, don’t interfere with it. Just call American Home Shield and let them deal with it.

I've filed claims with American Home Shield over the phone and they were good people and seemed to be pretty nice. Recently, I called them for the hot water heater and in two days, I heard from them. The contractors came and did that within a week, which was fine. The only problem I ever had with American Home Shield was my experience with my microwave which was horrible. I first reported this in August and they just gave me the runaround. They said that they were going to replace it but I hadn't heard anything and that's been since January 9th. I am still waiting to hear what they are going to do. Still, I'm happy with American Home Shield. I have been with them for 11 years now and I have recommended them to my daughter.

When our toilet was leaking, I called to file a claim and I was on hold for about 35 minutes. The wait time was the only thing that was bad with American Home Shield. But usually, when I have called them in the past, I did not even have to talk with anybody. I just say what I want and then the voice prompt would tell me the fee. It would tell me to punch in my card and ask if I would want to pay immediately or 48 hours after the service is complete. Plus when I was able to speak with a representative, it was fine, very quick, totally efficient and very easy. Then when the contractor came, the problem was addressed quickly and everything has been working since.
I highly recommend American Home Shield. When a major appliance goes out, if you take what you pay them the whole year and look at what you pay for the contractor to come out, for the services and the one-time fee, you will still not even get close to what you have to pay out-of-pocket for having to replace something major like that breaking.

I bought an older house and because of its age, we negotiated to get a three-year warranty contract with American Home Shield. Their customer service has been fine. The hardest part is when I have to call in where I could wait for 30-45 minutes if I need to talk to them. To place claims, I can either call in, which can be quite a bit of a wait. And then, they also have an online process which is much easier. I had three claims in the past few months. And for the most part, I have been very satisfied with the contractors especially with the latest two appliance people I used. They were very professional and solved the problems right away. I’ve had other warranty companies through rental properties as well and AHS is the best one.

We were having extremely cold weather here in Southern Georgia when my furnace stopped working. It was frozen over so I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and it went fine and easy. I live in a small town and AHS don’t generally contract with anybody that services this area. But the fellow came out of Jacksonville Florida the next day and it was far quicker than I thought. He was very professional, friendly, and took care of the problem quickly. There was ice on the condenser and all he needed to do was break it off and it started up. Years ago when I had a plumbing issue, my experience with them was a nightmare, but this one was nice. I’d tell a friend of mine especially if they’re a single woman to get AHS and I wish their rates weren’t as high as AHS' rates have gotten.

When scheduling an appointment, you really can't get anything done on the internet and you have to talk to somebody. Sometimes, I would be on hold for two hours trying to schedule somebody or if I had a question about the contractors coming out, especially if I call after four. And then if I try to call first thing in the morning, it doesn't open until seven o'clock my time. The claims process took a long time to get done just because of all the phone calls I had to make.
When my stove went out, the process took probably at least two months from the initial time it started acting up. The contractor came out in a week and he said it was the motherboard. Another week later, he came back and got the motherboard and they were gonna rebuild it. It took another three weeks for it to come back and then they put it in and it didn't work. Then it took another week to get a new stove authorized then they told me to pick the stove, so I picked one.
They finally brought the new stove a week after I ordered it, but it came with the wrong cord. I told them it was a four prong and it was a three, but they sent me an email asking me the same question so, I said it was a three prong. The guy said I have to get another cord, so then I had to call and get one. Then he told me to use the old cord, which I did. But the motherboard on the new stove didn't work. He said that I might want to change the fuse and then he would be back. When he came back, he did a few more things and so far, it's working.
Then the top of the stove worked for about a week but the bottom didn't and it was the craziest thing, but it's okay so far and I can cook now. The contractor was good and the company had been out several times and they had always done well. I just wish American Home Shield could get their act together with the phone situation. But as far as replacing something that they couldn't fix and the contractors that they sent out, they were excellent.

When we purchased the plan from American Home Shield, everything was new in our new house but we also knew that everything would start breaking on us. We have the plan for a while now and January of last year, I had a claim for my microwave oven which stopped heating. AHS sent out somebody and he fixed it. In the process though, he messed up a vent. The oven was so loud when it was on. So the contractor came back out and tried to fix it the best that he could. A few weeks down the road, the microwave again went out, so they came out and fixed it again. A few months later, it quit heating up. It was a nightmare trying to get on the line with AHS and getting somebody. Everybody kept pointing the finger. The contractor was blaming AHS and AHS was blaming the contractor.
It was the only time I was really unhappy because AHS kept saying that the technicians were the ones that came out and they were the specialist and if they said that the oven needed to be replaced, it would be replaced. But technicians told us that was not the case. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it was the third time that it happened in one year and that should tell them that the oven needed to be replaced. I could’ve bought one or two new microwaves at that price. I got it replaced eventually at the beginning of this year but that should have been done from the get-go.
During another time, I had a garage door opener issue, but AHS took care of that. And recently, my heater was not heating. The contractor fixed it but about three weeks later, it started acting up again, so I called them. I did not want to file a claim online as I needed to talk to somebody because it was an ongoing issue. I waited over an hour and a half which was ridiculous when I didn’t have that kind of time. It turned out that another part was broken which took a bit to get here but they got it and now the heater is working really good. The contractor that I dealt with was really pleasant. It was just one of those hit and miss type of thing.
When things go down, I get it that sometimes they couldn't come out immediately because there’s a process and they got to get it approved. Then sometimes, they have to wait for the parts. But I don’t like being without an appliance for three weeks, especially something that I use on a daily basis. But still, I'm satisfied with AHS because at the end of the day, whatever was broken was either replaced or has been taken care of. It may not be in the timely manner that I would like it to be done, but still, it gets done. Also, the people that came out were very pleasant and helpful so I would recommend them. In fact, I have referred them to a couple of friends and they have purchased the warranty.

The old water heater broke down and needed to be fixed. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. The water heater is perfect and I'm done with it. The other issue I applied for was getting the front door re-coded or re-keyed. So, AHS sent out a company out and a technician got here at 12-ish and she didn’t' leave till close to 6:00. She was having issues all day with it. The main door getting re-keyed didn’t happen. She only re-keyed the back door but that wasn't our main concern. She said that they were going to come back again another day because she has to talk to her supervisor. She didn’t tell me she was struggling the whole day at my house when I thought it was going to be a 30-minute to an hour job, and she didn’t contact her boss to say she couldn't do it.
The technician would disappear into her vehicle for an hour and come back saying she didn’t have the part and it was broken. She left for Home Depot, came back an hour later and tried to work on it. We couldn't leave the house until she was gone. She informed us of what she was doing mostly through text. I contacted her Sunday and I paid AHS $75. I texted her to let me know when were they coming back. At the end of the day, I had to text her because they didn’t bother to contact me. Tuesday, Wednesday passed, and nothing. So on Thursday, I contacted her to see what was going on. She told me that her boss won’t be free until Saturday. We've been having issues with the door locking and closing. So, I accidentally left my keys inside and I closed the door because I didn’t want the dog to get out of the house, and the door locked itself which I didn’t even lock it.
So, we were outside the house the whole time and I called American Shield for help, asking people what has been going on. AHS told me they couldn’t send out somebody to unlock my door because they can't do it and gave me a bunch of excuses. I told them that they sent me a potluck guy on Sunday and I was trying to send this door fixed. I was stuck out with my wife and son in the cold for two hours and we couldn’t get inside. So, I had to call someone to unlock my door which cost me $290 to get the backdoor re-keyed the backdoor. He broke in through the door and had to re-key. I ended up paying for it.
So, the technician over at American Shield denied me because her boss denied me. I was pretty pissed off of what they did yesterday when they should have fixed the door last Sunday. There was no real reason to have this much difficult time. I called American Shield on Monday to explain what happened with the company and they contacted the company. They also were able to contact the manager of that company and immediately I got a text from that technician that came out. AHS needed to get a refund of the money from that company and I want my refund from American Shield.
I understand your concerns with the re-key service request and the noncovered cost paid to have the malfunction repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that have occurred.

I've had American Home Shield for nine years since I bought my house. I had filed claims with them before and I followed the 50-50 arrangement for simple repairs such as for my garbage disposal and they covered that, and they also fixed the inside of my toilet. But for big repairs such as for my water heater, AHS paid for a new one. I'm glad I have AHS, but it would have been nice if they also paid for all the upgrades where most of the money went. I've mostly had plumbing issues and the plumbers were great. Recently, my toilet was leaking, so I called AHS and they sent a plumber out to fix it. But they denied the claim because they said that the pipe was disintegrated on one side. Overall, I would recommend AHS. I have three different accounts with American Home Shield. My personal home and two rent houses. One of my houses had a plumbing issue. It leaks underneath the sink and needed some replacement on some faucets. And a couple of months earlier it needed a new water heater, so AHS handled both of those. Submitting a claim was easy. I go online, submit it and the website pulls up all three different accounts. I select which account and it gets assigned the same day and the vendor calls me the next day to make arrangements. That process was all within 24 hours.
I've had interactions with every contractor. For the most part, they've been professional and on time. The contractor I had with my garage had to come back three times and two of those times fell underneath the same $100 deductible. One time, my pool pump in my personal house was rattling and going out. I had to listen to it scream for another four months. It made a lot of noise and my neighbors were complaining. But AHS wouldn't fix it until it completely broke. That aggravated me because it was clearly going out and I had to wait until it completely broke before I could get it fixed. Other than that, American Home Shield's quality of work has been high. They fix the issue and get on out, they don't waste any time.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fine most of the time. But this last time, I requested a plumber to come out to do some repairs on some faucets and things because the whole shower faucet was making a noise. But on the American Home Shield site where you would put in for the detailed description of whatever it is they’re coming out to do, there’s no detailed description that I can put in. It's checkboxes. The contractor said it was not part of the work order so he left without fixing the actual faucet handle. The AHS website doesn’t provide the opportunity to make a detailed work order list of items so for the contractor to turn around and say that was bull because I told them to come out to repair the faucet in the whole bathroom. I had to have somebody else come out and pay another service fee for them to come out and do it, which was ridiculous.
It’s a lot easier and more efficient to get a claim submitted via online, but I don’t get a full work order. So the people that come here to work on stuff don’t have to do anything really because all they have to do is say that they checked whatever it was that I checked on the box. I don’t like having to pay multiple times to get things done that should have been done the first time. The recent contractors I got were really good, and this is the first time I used this contractor with the heater. I have multiple heater units, but the one in my master’s bedroom had gone out. I put the claim in and called on a Thursday, and I knew that that left one day and nobody would come out on a Saturday. We were forecast to have some really cold weather for the next three or four days, but the contractor called that Saturday and said that the guy will be out between these times. So, he came out on a Saturday and diagnosed the problem. It was an easy fix and it was done in probably 30 minutes, and I was really impressed. Overall, I’m pretty happy with American Home Shield. I’ve done my research and they’re the best of the home warranty people out there. The only problem with this home warranty is that sometimes you’ve got to fight them to get what’s right, and I don’t know if that’s the way the system is set up.
I had a real knock-down drag-out on a swimming pool issue, and finally, I had to go prove to them a whole bunch of stuff. When I finally did, they accepted it and paid for the claim. The heater was a good example of another drawback, but I’ve had it before where somebody couldn’t get out for three days, and I’ve had that on the air conditioning unit go out. If I call a contractor, I can get them to come out the next day. My satisfaction with American Home Shield depends on the situation. I’m still mad at them, but the last time was a really good experience. It depends on what breaks and what contractor comes out, and if you have to get into a hassle with them and all. It’s really claim-by-claim with American Home Shield, but they’re no different from any of the other ones.

The first time I submitted a claim at American Home Shield, I did it by phone and it was a big mistake because I was on hold forever. But once I got to their reps, it was fine. They're professional and they get it done. Once I complained about the waiting time, they said to just do it over the computer. I did, then it was fine. Recently, my heater stopped working in the middle of a snowstorm and AHS sent a contractor to fix it. He was fast, considerate and good. He didn't have the part that I have, so he drove and then came back 45 minutes later with the part and fixed it.
However, I wish AHS would send me a list of items that are covered. For instance, I didn't know that garbage disposals were included in appliances and I don't know what category ceiling fans fall into. If I were to call and I had a list of things that need repair, I would like to do that in the same call instead of calling different times. Besides that, my experience was fantastic. I would recommend my friends to get AHS. The warranty has saved me a few times.

I will never use American Home Shield again. We had two clothes washers and on the spin cycle, the drum was rattling. It sounded like it was rattling out of the machine. So, we called AHS and they sent somebody out. The person said there was some damage in there and the repair was probably going to cost more than the machine's worth. He submitted his reports and then AHS dragged their feet. For a second opinion, they sent another technician out from a different company. He came out and said the same thing. A week went by and we'd been calling since we were trying to get some answers. Nobody called back. We talked to one lady online and she said they were going to submit the approval for the replacement and so we waited but nothing happened.
My wife called and they said they were going to repair it. Another five days went by and then AHS denied the claim. They said that since we overloaded my washer, it's irreparable and they're not going to cover it. In the end, they totally ripped us off and we're not renewing with them. Aside from that, submitting a claim is a nightmare. We had a dishwasher go out and it took months. We'll never have another home warranty. It's an absolute joke. I had a rough experience and I'll tell anybody who wants to listen.
I understand your frustration with the service you experienced to have your washer machine repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that occurred.

We contacted American Home Shield when our refrigerator broke more than a month ago. The entire process has been a nightmare. American Home Shield required two service contractors to look at the unit before agreeing that it needed to be replaced. I was told many times by multiple people at American Home Shield that someone would follow up with me after each phone call, only to have no one follow through. Every time I called, there was a breakdown in communication, and multiple people gave me many different excuses. When I was finally transferred to the department that handles ordering replacement refrigerators, it was the same story, with the only difference being made to wait on hold for 50+ minutes before speaking with an agent. We feel trapped.

American Home Shield is the worst company I have ever dealt with. We had a backup on Saturday. They said someone was coming out Sunday. Someone called in. The plumber said they could not get here till Monday but if we had water they could not get their feet wet so they couldn't come. Tuesday we're still waiting for someone. They call Tuesday night at 8 p.m. and say they couldn't make it out. Wednesday No One still showed up. They took our $75.
We canceled our service and they still took the money out for the following month and said they didn't get our cancellation notice. They didn't refund her $75 or on other money. Did nothing for us. Was very rude and nasty. We call in 32 * and never got one service from them. Reset for 6 days. They even said they would authorize someone. Well that didn't work. Nobody wanted to deal with them it when they hurt their companies name. They refused us. What a waste of time and money. I didn't get a refund or anything. They were the most disrespectful people I've ever in my life. I am sorry I ever signed up with that company and I would never refer them to anyone.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the stoppage repaired. Also, I understand that there are some concerns with the service fee. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.

When I bought the house, it came with the AHS warranty and so far, they seemed to be doing a really good job at the times I’ve needed them. I was having a problem with my air conditioning unit recently so I submitted a claim over the phone. Their reps were wonderful and really understanding like the couple of time that I had to use them. I didn't have to go into a bunch of details and I just told them what was wrong. Then by the next day, I got a call back from the contractor like I usually do.
The first company that AHS sent out said the problem was the motor so they brought a new motor and put it in. Then they said it was the compressor motor so they said they had to come back and replace that. In the mean time, I called the company that services my unit and when they came out, they said it was just a resistor problem. That cost me 250 bucks out of my own pocket to get the air conditioning working right and through this winter, it did okay. But it got back to where it was getting hot. I knew my air conditioning unit wasn’t blowing out right so I called AHS again. They sent a contractor out and he said that some of the wirings were run wrong by the first company that came out and repaired it. The contractor wired it correctly and it seems to be working better now.
All in all, the first company was trying to rip off American Home Shield because they were trying to charge for a second motor that didn’t need to be replaced. But this last guy that came out seemed to be very knowledgeable. I’m happy with AHS and I’ve recommended them to friends. I was also trying to get my best friend who just bought a house about a year ago to sign up with them.

Klenk Appliance came out, looked at it, ordered the part, came back out and fixed it, and now it's working. I really like Klenk Appliance and the tech has always been good to us when he's sent out. We've had good and bad experiences with AHS but overall, we've been grateful and I'm glad we have them. They've been willing to bring people out and service our stuff. I had a leaky kitchen faucet. I tried to submit my claim to American Home Shield online but I live in the country and they never assign someone in my area. I got a letter from them before saying that if the contractors are not in my area, I have to notify them. That happened several times. I had to request for somebody but that couldn't be done online. So, I called in and requested a certain plumber. The particular plumber who came was great, he works red. I've had an air conditioning man as well. I've had no problem with them once I could get them here. Other than the fact that they did a good job, they were on time too in calling me and checking with me. When they said they'd be here, they were here.
However, the contractor couldn't repair the faucet and they're supposed to be getting me another one or giving me what they call a buyout because they can't replace it. I'm still waiting to hear from them. They came here last Friday and they said that they would contact me by Monday. Monday is about over and I haven't heard from them. Other than that I'm very satisfied with AHS.

I noticed a smell in the bathroom then the light switch and the outlet there quit working. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and within a few days, the contractor came. He was fantastic. He fixed the issue and gave me a lot of information about my older house, how it was wired and things like that. It was all great. My only issue was the way American Home Shield handled it because we were unaware that we were not supposed to pay the contractor.
We gave him a check. It got deposited and then shortly, we got a withdrawal. American Home Shield charged us the $75 copay. My wife had to call them and tell them that we already paid and that the company already deposited it, so we paid twice. They told us, “Fine. We’ll give you a refund.” They then gave us a refund but then I got four separate e-mails saying that we have an outstanding bill with American Home Shield. We had to keep calling every time that happens and it takes time. I'm hoping they got it taken care of but I would not be surprised if I get another e-mail.

AHS has been very good and we've been very pleased with them. Recently, my husband submitted a claim for an electrical issue where the outlet box had to be replaced. He moved something that bumped and blew out the fuse. It sparked, was black around the outlet, and the whole room didn't have electricity. It took us a little while to get the appointment because of a lot of things. It was during the time of all the snow and AHS sent a company that was not local, so they had to come from afar. We waited and when the contractor came, it only took him 30 minutes max to fix the issue. He was very professional and the outlet box worked well after the repair.

The air condition stopped working. I called AHS. They sent out a tech and he needed some Freon to it, then told me that the air condition would be fine. He said that he could only pressurize it up, put the Freon in, and make sure it holds the pressure, but it was not going to resolve the problem. He also said that I have a pinhole somewhere along the way where it found a weak spot and leaked out.
He charged me for some sealer. They kept this chemical which they put in first before the Freon, and then the Freon behind it. It would go through the whole system. There were very small pinhole leaks and the chemical would seal it and then it would hold the Freon. The sealer lasted for four months, but then again, no air conditioning. AHS sent the technician out again and this time, he said that the air condition was burned dry and that AHS won't pay to fill it up. He said it was going to be six dollars a pound. But when it was all said and done, it was around $600 to $700. There seemed to be an issue here, that was why it was losing the Freon.
AHS didn't pay for the Freon and they probably wouldn't pay if we replaced the air conditioner since it was out several times and they couldn't find the leak. I had to step forward when they indicated that there was no warrant to replace the air conditioning. So, I kept requesting to speak with a manager, who had more information than what the current person had. They said that someone would be in touch with me. The following day, a young lady called, went through the whole thing and she said that she has all my records.
I told AHS that I would have someone come out and that I was installing a new air conditioner since I needed one as my wife was in pain and we live in Florida. The company came out and I had a builder, which was fine. Then, the lady from AHS called back and wanted some additional information from the insurance company that would help make a decision where we're headed. I supplied that to her and then, she called back and said that in reviewing everything and that I'm a loyal customer, they appreciate my business and that they were willing to give me what was considered a value of the price it goes towards the air conditioner.
But I didn't expect them to pay for the full unit. We came up with a figure which was $1,500. And she said it would take a couple of weeks for everything to work out. In the meantime, I had air condition, so I was happy. It was all handled well. However, I realized whenever I called American Home Shield and they sent out an individual, I should receive a receipt that they were here and what was done for my record. But they didn't do that. But I would still tell a friend that AHS is a very reputable company and I've had good experiences with them when I used to live in Pennsylvania.

We filed claims with American Home Shield over the phone for our range. It was automated because it was on a Saturday. The contractor who came out was fine. He came out on the day and quickly diagnosed the range. However, the complaint that I had with him was that I called the next week and it had been five business days since he had been here at my house. I checked to see if anything had come from his part search to fix our range. He said that he didn't locate anything and contacted American Home Shield so I called AHS to get an update but I found out he only called AHS to update them with the part search immediately after I got off the phone with him. He delayed the process for a week because he didn't call like he was supposed to.
There was also some sort of miscommunication. AHS went back and forth with us over the course of almost two weeks about the part search. Unfortunately, we also encountered some holidays in there so we lost a few days. They eventually did a part search and once we got on, we had to stay on them about it. After that was done, they got with us about what we wanted to do. We opted to take a cash settlement as opposed to having them select a range from their website because, then, it would take another 14 business days after that for them to be able to deliver it to us. So, we went ahead and bought one on our own and submitted a receipt to American Home Shield. It took approximately a week to a week and a half for them to reimburse us. In the meantime, during all of that, we bought a toaster oven to carry us through. So, they reimbursed us $75 for the $130 we paid for a nice toaster oven.
We got really upset with them and complained to the Better Business Bureau, who intervened briefly. AHS also refunded us the deductible that we initially paid for the inconvenience. All in all, between the miscommunication and us contacting the Better Business Bureau, it took about a month for us to get everything fixed and get our range back. It was a bit of a hassle. Before, when we had the issue with our dryer, everything was quick. The total downtime with that with the weekend was nine days, which wasn't too bad. But the case with the range was a bit of a nightmare. We were frustrated with them for a while but the end result was we were able to buy a nice range, and we only paid $20 more than what they reimbursed us to get the one that we wanted.
We have had a good experience with AHS, except for the last time. It's worth having AHS especially if a large piece of your house goes out like your air conditioning unit. It's worth having the service so we'd still recommend it. Just make sure that you have arrangements made in case something’s not necessarily considered an emergency replacement.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone when my heat pump would not go into the defrost cycle. That went well, although I was put on hold for a long time before I eventually got through. There might have been some bad weather and it took a while to get through to somebody. The representative I spoke with took my information and told me that they would have a contractor contact me. Our interaction was good and fairly simple.
The first contractor that came out was not good at all. I waited for him for four hours, but he was here for only 10 minutes. He called first before he came over and I told him what the problem was. But when he came, all he did was take pictures of the heat pump and the nomenclature panel on the heat pump. He said that he would have to get a defrost board and a sensor, and he would try to get back the next day. The next day, he called and said that he was coming back. I told him that I couldn’t be here, but he said that was fine because the unit is outside and he wouldn’t need me here. So, he came back and did whatever work he was going to do.
But the heat pump frosted up again and I called AHS back. They lined me up with another contractor who came out and looked at the defrost board and the sensor. The second contractor was very good. He showed me everything, step by step, with what he was doing, and he showed me the board and the sensor. It turned out that although the defrost board was replaced, the sensor was never replaced. When he pulled the sensor out, it was old and dirty, and it wasn't new. He had to get a part and he said that he’d be back the next day. He came back the next day, put the new sensor in, checked everything out, and everything worked fine from there. AHS and the claim process were good, but the selection of the first contractor that came out was not very good.
Hello, George. We hate to hear that the first contractor did not do what he stated needed to be done. Thankful for the second technician. Thank you for your feedback.

The guy from Total Air was very nice and informative. He knew what he was talking about because my husband was out there with him, and he was very thorough. He was trying to get the air conditioner system running and when he got it done, I was inside and I thought that it was my neighbor’s lawn mower running. It made the worst sound and noise. He said it was malfunctioning badly and it definitely needed to be replaced. He told me that it was covered by American Home Shield and he was going to come back because he didn’t have the part. He came on a Saturday and I was already irritated and upset because he was trying to get somebody to come by and see me.
The worst part was he told me that under my plan that even if I needed the part, I would have to pay $660 for some coolant stuff to make the system cool. It was something that he had to inform me of because he didn’t want to surprise me when he came back out. It totally blew my mind. I didn’t have $660 with me to give somebody. I know for a fact that there are other companies that don’t charge their customers. My girlfriend goes to another company that does not pay Freon that goes into the unit.
I'm a little perturbed with American Home Shield and I am so ready to leave them. I got an 85-year-old mother that has Alzheimer's and dementia, and right now, we are struggling. For some of the past years that I've been with American Home Shield, it was fine because they've done all of the small things. We've had them for so long and this is the first time I've had something big and major like this. They took my money and they have yet to come and fix the problem.

I initiated a claim with American Home Shield back in July for my washing machine and it took about seven visits to resolve the issue in about eight months. The contractor said that they were going to order parts. They ordered the parts but they’re not the right parts. Then they marked the claim as finished, which is not. So, I tried to get a hold of American Home Shield and let them know that it was not done and I was still on hold for hours at a time. The contractor said that he is going to let American Home Shield know that the washing machine cannot be fixed and AHS kept saying that the contractor has not contacted them. So, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and I ended up waiting ever since. It is ridiculous. AHS finally replaced the washing machine because it wasn't repairable.
The only way one can get a resolution with AHS is to pick up the phone every single day and call and wait on hold for hours. I spent hours on hold on the phone, talked to different people, and never got the same answer twice. They made a lot of empty promises that they would escalate things and never did. They would escalate to their contractor resolution department and they would have 24 hours to respond then a week would go by. It usually took a couple of weeks for them to send a contractor out but I always had to push for the appointments. In fact, I'm still waiting for somebody from social media to contact me with my issues and it's horrible. I had an oven issue that never even got resolved and I finally gave up on that. Also, one cannot cancel their contract as they have to do it in writing but AHS ignores it and continues to bill. The only way to do it is to cancel the account that it is being drawn on. It is crazy.

Even so, the guy who came and his son were both wonderful. However, when I called American Home Shield, I was put on hold for 50 minutes. It was very frustrating. AHS should answer their phones and put more people on it. My time's more valuable to me than their time. And I pay them for their time.

This is the worst experience I've ever had with a home warranty company. It's unbelievable to me. They obviously care more about procuring new business than keeping existing customers. There is no way I will renew my contract with this company.

I had an issue with an electrical outlet in our kitchen. We plugged in there for several years and then, all of a sudden, we noticed that when the device that we had was plugged into the side of the wall, it was causing a power surge on that side of the house. So, it ended up having to be switched out. We had discovered what the problem was late at night so rather than wait on the phone, we ended up submitting the claim through the website. The contractor who came out was excellent. He was very attentive to detail and very helpful. He went above and beyond what he needed to do. He explained everything and he looked at other areas too where he could change something. But he'd say, "Oh, well, I don't necessarily need to change it now. But just so you're aware."
Submitting claims online is a bit different. When he had to deal through the call-in service, it would be almost two hours before we can get someone on the phone. There were a few reps we had dealt with where it seemed they were trying to get us off the phone as quickly as possible and were not really taking the time to understand what our need is. So, we had to end up calling back because they've communicated something incorrectly to the contractor. And then, we have to go around and round and round, it becomes frustrating to deal with. But when we're dealing with the online service, it wasn't as bad. But there were some reps too that helped us, were on top of the situation and were more than helpful.
We had an issue that wasn't an electrical but was more of an AC-related issue and AHS ended up sending an electrician out. They ended up wasting time and essentially money on American Home Shield's part because we pay for our service in installment payments. And then, we also pay for the service calls they have done. But with that, if it doesn't work within a certain amount of time, if it goes and it breaks down again, then we call back and we have AHS send someone out and it becomes not at our cost at that point because it's related to that same call. So, it's money wasted for American Home Shield, which in turn raises our rates because they've got to recoup that money somehow. So, in the end, it becomes a bit of a concern on that level.
So far, majority of our experiences have been good and easy to deal with. But there have been times where either things weren't covered or we have issues with the service or the contractor. Nevertheless, if someone would ask, "What do you use or what did you use before?" I could tell them American Home Shield. I wouldn't feel bad to give them my recommendation.

I had a bad experience with AHS and it took three months to get everything situated. They even overcharged me and yet they did not produce and I had to contact them several times. I had issues with three appliances and the people they got to come out to my house were terrible. They didn’t know what they were doing. For my dishwasher, the technicians had to order parts for it, but they took it apart and they did not put it back together properly when the part came in. I couldn't even run the dishwasher 'cause the cord that goes in the dishwasher was still not put back. I had to call them again to have the technician come out there and put the cord back on properly.
Then, I had a problem with my refrigerator but they sent a guy who said that the problem was not my refrigerator. It was the water coming from the house to the refrigerator. So, AHS transferred that tech call to a plumber. When the plumber came out there, he unscrewed the valve from the house to the refrigerator and water just gushed in there, going everywhere. And I was there with him. So it was not the house per se. It was the refrigerator. They pushed it back to the plumber but I asked AHS to send me a different plumber since that first one didn’t know what he was doing. They sent out another plumber and it took longer than a month since they had to get parts but they finally fixed it.
But the person who came out to fix my refrigerator cut a hole in the wall. I talked to the lady from AHS since we got permission from them to cut the hole and they said that they would replace it. But she said that they were going to give me $100 instead because they couldn’t find anyone to come out there and do the job. I refused that offer since I probably wouldn’t be able to find anyone to come out there to do the job for $100 either. She said that might be true but their policy wouldn't allow them to pay more than $100 for the part to get it reattached.
I got in a fit and I kept on the phone for another 30-minutes so she finally said that they would give me $150. But if she knew she could give me $150, then she could probably give me $200 or even go as far as finding someone to come out here and fix this problem. But she was either lazy or she didn’t want to spend the money to get my property fixed like they agreed to. But she said that all she could do was give me the $150 and make sure that I would get the amount.
Another thing that was crazy was my AC unit. It makes a squeaky noise and at the same time, if it's 80 to 90 degrees outside, it's probably 110 degrees in my three-bedroom, two-bathroom home of roughly about 1,200 sq. ft. AHS was telling me that all the parts are moving and it’s blowing air so they don't want to change it or fix it. The AC is working but it was no longer strong enough to keep up with the house. Then that’s not working properly. It was so unfair because they told me that if a part isn’t working, they are going to change it and either give me a new one of the same brand or fix the one I have. But they didn't do anything so we got ceiling fans instead.
AHS overcharged us too. They would charge me a tech fee and then the technician would come out here and not fix the issue or they would only give me 30 to 90 days so if anything happens again after that time frame, they would want a new service fee even though they know it’s the exact same problem I was having the first time they came out. It's like a trick and it's not fair for me to have to continue paying AHS for the same thing.
Plus when I put a call request, I put in my credit card and it pays AHS upfront. But then, I've had a technician on the backend saying that AHS told them to collect $75. I called AHS and they said that they didn't see evidence of me paying so I have to take screenshots from my phone. But I would prefer AHS to get a better system of how they collect the money and keep track of it.
My wife and I have also probably lost a few hundred dollars dealing with AHS just for them not being honest and not telling us about the amount of money they had charged us twice. There were a few times where they charged us the monthly fee twice in one month and I had to get them to send the checks back. It was bad. I've been with American Home Shield for about three years now but if they had any competition, I probably wouldn’t be with them. But I'm a landlord so I need my things to be safe even if it takes two months for them to finally fix and get things right.

We had an issue with the dryer recently as it was making a rattling noise. The contractor that American Home Shield sent out was extremely courteous and professional, got in and out in an experienced manner, and was able to find the problem and fix the issue within 40 minutes. When we called the company at other times, the contractors that came out have been extremely professional as well and they've been knowledgeable of the job at hand. So, I have nothing but positive feedback for AHS and the contractors that they've recently sent to us, and I'd recommend AHS to a friend.

I have two policies with American Home Shield for different locations which are going on for about five years now. One for the home we live in and one for another home that I own. Recently, I made a claim for the refrigerator's icemaker in our home. I submitted it on the phone to American Home Shield and it wasn't a very pleasant experience. The first time I called, I waited for an hour and 44 minutes. On the second time, I was on hold and whenever the call got completed, I was disconnected right away. I called back again and it was an hour and 38 minutes.
We finally ended up calling the headquarters. My wife had a number and she called there and got them involved. Then there was a mix up because they sent the fellow to the wrong address. They tried to put it on me that I gave them the wrong address and contract number, but I didn't. In fact, whenever the tech called, he called my home phone number. But when he said he was at my front door, I was sitting here waiting for him and I could see out the front door that he wasn’t there. I knew right away what happened.
So I gave him the right address and when he came, he had to order a part. Then, lo and behold, they canceled the claim. I had to call them back and we got the main office involved. The lady there took care of it and she got another contractor to come out. That contractor looked at the icemaker and ordered the same part. We waited a week for the part to come in then he came back and fixed it. And because we had so much trouble and so much confusion, the lady at corporate headquarters waived the service fee.
Still, I was very disappointed with my experience. The long wait time was inexcusable and if AHS doesn't have enough people to answer the telephone, that’s their business. But people have to contact them and they should understand that not everybody in this world is a computer person. I am one of those people as I have a trembling in my arms and my hands. I can’t run a computer keyboard that way because before I get my finger off of a button, I’ve clicked that three times. Another thing is, I’ve spent a lot of money on the monthly fees and I have to direct pay for my credit card. Then all of a sudden the monthly fee went up and I didn’t know anything about it until I saw it on my credit receipt.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I called three times for my dishwasher. The first time, it was not heating. American Home Shield had Rand's Appliances send out a man and a heating unit had to be put in it. The second time, something flipped and they came back and fixed that. The third time, I had to call them to come back and re-attach the dishwasher into the cabinet under the granite countertop. I opened the dishwasher door one day and the tiny screws popped out which caused my dishwasher to fall forward. The tech put in larger screws and now it is fine.
The only problem that I had was in trying to get through to American Home Shield or in trying to call Rand's Appliances back if I miss their call. Some male voice comes on the recording saying that they were very busy, to leave my name and number and that they would call me back as soon as they can. Two days went by and I did not hear anything, so I went through the motions again. I called and waited for them to call me. When you hear that recording, you might as well hang up 'cause you're not gonna hear. Finally, the last time I called, I was lucky. A real person answered the phone. I was even shocked. They immediately came out and fixed the dishwasher. The representatives themselves are fine but it takes forever and a day to reach them. I mentioned this to them and they said that they were very busy. That was my only complaint. That aside, they were prompt in getting the repairmen out here.

My microwave was not working and I submitted the claim online to AHS. My experience during claim submission was fine and I got a response right away. AHS sent GE first and GE changed some parts and it started working. But then again, suddenly it didn’t work so I called again and they sent somebody out. He came and looked at the part that we need. But instead of the part, they brought a microwave door. It’s been ongoing since last year so I'm not having a good experience right now. Other than that, I like American Home Shield and this is my second year with them. Before that, I had them and I was fine. They’re good and reliable.

We've had American Home Shield for quite a long time and they've always done a good job for us. I had a heating issue and when I submitted a claim, it was really easy. I did it online since I needed to get somebody to come out and look at it. The reps scheduled it for the next Monday when I called on a Friday. AHS sent out a contractor and when he came, he told me who he was, what he was going to do and what he did. He took care of the issue but it took two service calls.
The first call was for a capacitor out in the outside unit that wouldn't run and he fixed it. It wasn’t much longer and then it quit working again outside. When I sent the info to AHS, a different tech came out very quickly. He went out and looked. He said, "There was too much pressure and that locked it out.” I have two big air returns up in the house which have filters in them that I didn’t know. It was right above where it goes into the air and takes down the basement. It happened to be the filter was covered up by some piping. We started looking around and he found that filter. Since the repair, the heater is fine and we’re getting some heat now, though we don’t turn the heat up as much as we used to.

A wall furnace in my basement needed to be repaired. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield because I wasn't given the options to talk to a person. It was very quick to get a contractor out for the repair and he was very friendly and efficient. Now, the furnace is heating, but it is making a loud and unusual noise. The contractor warned me about that and said there was nothing we could do about the vibration. There's also nobody I can call at American Home Shield to address that. So the furnace wasn’t completely fixed and I'm not totally happy with the repair, but it was a good experience.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our heat pump which wouldn't heat above 60-something. It was 14 degrees and the heat pump was supposed to kick over to emergency heat, but it didn't. The technician found a wire and he fixed the heat pump, and it's working great now. It has been a year that we've had AHS warranty for this house and our experience with them has been fine. This is the third house for which we got a warranty, but this is the first time that we've ever renewed our warranty since we liked AHS.

There was flooding in my basement that had to do with the water heater and the toilet. The debris from the toilet got into the basement and it got to the point where it was really unsafe for the people in the household because it smelled. At first, it seemed like AHS was putting me off since it went on for a while. I kept trying to tell them that the people who had originally taken care of it were no longer available but they wouldn't listen to me. So finally, after I threatened to call the Health Department, they decided that they would do something. Once the ball started working, they went on along with me.
I had to find someone who could come and help me because they couldn't find anybody. They went along with who I chose, which was a wonderful thing and I appreciated it. Also, since the debris went inside the heater, it broke and they replaced it. The guy they sent did a wonderful work. The only problem I had was that they did not want to accept the bottom of the claim. They said that there were wipes on the inside of the water, but nobody uses wipes in our house. I've had a wonderful experience with AHS. I've been with them forever and they have been there for us and have always come through. One little bump in the road means nothing to me, and I would never change.

The reps I talked to asked what the issues were and then confirmed that everything was fine. Everything was very simple and I am very pleased with what they have to offer. The pressure gauge of the water heater in one of our rental units was broken and the first company that American Home Shield sent out tried to gyp everybody to have it replaced. They were trying to charge us $900 for it and initially American Home Shield said it wasn't covered by the warranty but when my husband called and asked over and over why it was not covered when it is part of the water heater until they finally said that my husband was right. We got a second company to come out and they ended up covering it. They wouldn’t have if my husband hadn’t gotten on the phone.
So we got a water heater out of the policy but for the most part, it wasn’t even worth calling them because we knew the majority of the things weren’t going to be covered. They would find some excuse not to cover them and it didn’t make sense for us to spend that much money on a warranty when we’re going to end up spending money on repairs anyway. Also, I didn’t trust most of the contractors except for the last guy we had. So we didn't renew our policy and if anyone is going with a warranty company, I would tell them to shop around and they might have a better experience than we did.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for seven years and our most recent claim went well but the one that we had three weeks ago did not. They didn’t follow up after the technician came out to see if the job was actually done. So I had to go re-request for someone else to come out and then that person came out and it's working great. So maybe that was just bad luck that I had for the request time. You basically cannot get ahold of them over the phone. The wait time was over a half hour so it all has to be done online through sending through their web page. But if you need to get ahold of someone online you'll get to their sales team no problem. American Home Shield is good if the appliance gets repaired but if it doesn’t and if you have a problem with your service call they're hard to get ahold of so you'd have to start sending emails but I don't know if they're responding to those though either. So I go back on the line and just re-request it.

There had been a couple of times when I've had difficulties with one thing with American Home Shield like when there was something stuck in the toilet. I found out after I ended up having to spend nearly $600 to have somebody install a new toilet that the toilet was bad. Overall, I couldn't complain. It was unfortunate that it did not cover my refrigerator. The ice in my refrigerator worked fine but the water thing stopped working and it was all the same thing so I know it wasn't covered. The waiting time over the phone was too long. It had to be at least five minutes.
However, the last experience with American Home Shield was very good. It was a claim for the oven. I waited because I wanted a black oven instead of a white one. I had no problem there. But the people that they sent out to install it couldn't do it. There was an electrical outlet that they were not qualified to do. They had to leave the oven in a big box in my family room because there was no room in the garage. I had to wait until I got another gentleman in, Jeremy, who I really like because he was very good. He took care of fixing the electrical, installed the oven and took the box away. And then he came back. I had an open space around or above the oven that had to be covered. We did that on our own. That was not him and it had nothing to do with American Home Shield but Jeremy was very diligent about that.

I needed to have an electrical issue taken care of and so I went online and scheduled for service with American Home Shield. It was very easy. I did everything online and then I received an email telling me who would be calling me to set up an appointment. The contractor then called me to set up a day and time and then they took care of my service. I was very well satisfied.
I’ve had American Home Shield since 2009, when we purchased this property, and the seller gave us the first year free. And we've decided to keep it ever since. I like everything about AHS except that my premium goes up every year. But when I compare it to others, I cannot complain about my premium. I have another home and I thought about getting a policy for it. I went online and it would have been more than what I'm paying for the home that I do have covered. I chose not to do it because I didn’t want to pay that premium.
I've been very satisfied with Home Shield. It's very easy to schedule service. One thing that I would like, however, is to have a choice of who I can have service from. But I can't complain about any of the service people they have sent me. And so a couple of weeks ago, I sent the "Refer a Friend" email to a friend of mine because they were talking about a Home Shield policy and so I told them about mine and I sent them the information.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for a washing machine that I had a problem with, and my interaction with the reps was positive. They helped me out, and they told me the options that were available to me because they weren't able to repair it. Then we went out, and we got one and had it installed about two weeks ago. The people at Majestic Appliance, the company that I bought the washer and dryers from, were absolutely fantastic, and the technician, Joe, was amazing. Joe was my primary contact at Majestic, and he was doing follow-up calls all the time. We wanted the washer and dryer to match, but the dryer wasn't broken. That was the only thing that was disappointing. So, we had to get a matching set, and we gave the dryer away to charity.
The American Home Shield reps told me that they would give me credit for $633.30, which was approximately what it cost me because I also got the pedestal that it sits on. But they were fair. They also told me over the phone that they were going to send me the amount once I send them a paid invoice. It has to say ‘paid’ on it because I got one, but it didn't say that, so I had to send it back. I've already paid Majestic Appliance, but I need a hard copy of the bill, and I’m waiting for it. My wife was handling it, and it got confusing. Nevertheless, I would absolutely recommend American Home Shield. They did as much as they could, and I was happy with the service. The warranty is a good product and it's worth the money. I've been paying over the years and this is the first time we really had an issue, and they were amazing. And the subcontractor that came out on their behalf was really good.

I would highly recommend American Home Shield. I simply go online to submit a claim and whoever has it calls me, schedules an appointment and gets it taken care of. The contractors have been very qualified people. Once they get in, they know what they're doing. I have a hot water heater upstairs in my attic which the technicians came out for. They were saying it was one problem, but they did not know exactly what the problem was. It turned out to be something totally different. The first try, they didn't get it right but they did exactly what they needed to do and they repaired it. The water heater has been excellent since it was fixed. AHS has done everything that I've ever asked them to do when I have a problem so, they're well worth whatever I pay on a monthly or annual basis. But the second time, the man just came out without calling first, waited 20 minutes, and then he left. Nobody was there because we were at work and we didn’t know that he was coming. We had already paid him $100 to come out, but when we asked him to come back, we were told that we had to pay another $100 for him to come back.
My wife wrote a letter to AHS, explaining to them what the situation was. The contractor should have called first to inform us that he was coming and we could have sent someone over. I found out that the last several times I've used American Home Shield, I have gone online and within the same day, someone responded to me. I had a little problem with American Home Shield. I'm about to cut off my contracts which I have for both of my properties. I had called for a dispatch for my washer and dryer. I paid with the credit card but they also debited my checking account. It almost put me into overdrive because that’s not my business account. It was hell and back to get my $75. Nobody seemed to understand what was going on each time I would call. It was disturbing. They said to call back and that they were going to put it through. Finally, I called OneAffiniti two weeks ago, I got the check last week.
The technician who came was very professional. But when he left, my washer was pouring out hot water. So, I had to call him back. He handled it very well this time. I asked him to check the wiring just to see if it's connected correctly. He did and he confirmed it was switched. Hot was on cold while cold was on hot. I was really upset. My husband's uniform was ruined. It could have been mine. I'm a nurse and my uniform probably would have been more expensive.
I use American Home Shield's online method of submitting claims. It's beautiful and I love it. I would click on whatever service I need for my appliance and that’s it. It's very easy instead of having to wait seven hours for someone to get on the phone. It's very difficult to get through to them. The people who answer the phone were very professional but they weren't getting what I was saying. The different accounts that I have were throwing them off and it shouldn’t because I've been with them for years. They weren't probably looking at the numbers versus me verbalizing to them that it's two different accounts.
AHS should give us more opportunity where we could work something on the internet. They should also have a little more time for their customer and they have to remember this is a United Nation. I don't know if it's my accent or what. They weren't understanding. They should have patience. That would have solved everything. They were good in the beginning honestly, but then, in the end, they got too comfortable with me. And once they did, it's like I'm nothing. That's what I felt. So it's time for me to change and go to somebody else.

I had about 20 minute hold time with a contractor and they took too long to get here. When the techs came, they didn't know what they were doing. They came out one day and it was fixed temporarily for about an hour and then someone else had to come back out a couple of days later. However, I had good interactions with the contractors that came out for the garage door.

I made a claim recently with AHS for our washing machine. The contractor who came out was knowledgeable, knew what he was doing and fixed the problem. He needed to get some parts and we had to wait for them to come in so the repair took a few weeks. But since the repair, the washer has been keeping everything clean. AHS does an adequate job and they take care of things the way they should. They are a great value and I recommend them to others.

When I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my garage door, the repairman they sent out didn’t have the parts with him and had to come back the next week. It was my first time to file a claim and I never set up an account online. When I did and I figured out how to sign in, I realized that my bill was overdue. So I paid it instantly. But initially, I didn't even know that I had to pay the bill because the guy said that if I got a credit card on file, that’d be charged automatically.
Then I had another claim for my washing machine for which American Home Shield referred me to Sears. When I didn’t hear from the contractor, I called them. They said they have been out here already and that I wasn't at home when they did. But they didn’t even call and I was sure they didn’t come because I have a security gate that no one could get through unless I knew they were coming. We argued back and forth a while then their rep checked and said that I would have to call back AHS and request the service again. So I did and I ended up waiting 50 something minutes to talk to somebody. I couldn’t do that online because their website said I already had a call on the washer.
In the meantime, I kept getting notices from American Home Shield that I hadn’t paid the service fee. I put a hold on that since no one showed up yet but there was no place on their website to say why I wasn't paying the bill. So I had to call in for the second time and I waited well over 50 minutes again to talk to someone. It’d be nice if their customers could correspond by email rather than having to wait on the line for long. When I talked to them, the rep said that there was nothing she could do to take that bill off. But I kept getting overdue notices so finally, I gave up and paid a notice that said January 10th even though they didn’t come out until the 15th of January. That delay caused me to miss my washing machine for several weeks.

Purchasing a home is a stressful experience, especially when within a week of closing the HVAC system starts having issues. My real estate agent spoke so highly of AHS and the Real Estate Edition, even though I have not had great success with this organization in the past. But it has been several years, so I remained optimistic. I attempted to request service for my HVAC via the website, and due to the premium not being paid from the closing a week ago, I was unable. I attempted to call into the 1-800 number, and proceeded to wait over one and a half hours to speak to someone.
With no success, I took matters into my own hand and called a contractor out that I have used in the past. He was licensed and I trust his work from previous experience. He came on-site, worked on the system for several hours trying to get it to hold freon. After no success, he advised that with a system 15+ years old, replacing the compressor would just be a band-aid on the bigger issue. He also mentioned that the company who made the unit was no longer in business, and finding a replacement compressor could prove to be difficult. He told me he could replace the unit, and offered me a discount on the unit being a returning customer to him. Not something he had to do.
I then proceeded to email my real-estate agent and the "account manager" that was assigned to me when the plan was selected. As a typical corporate response, she initiated the communication via email with an apology and advised that she could enter a ticket, but since it was after hours it would be tomorrow before I would be contacted. The contractor that was assigned, has no website, no real email address, no listing with the Secretary of State for any type of licensing, and the state corporation’s division shows the company was administratively dissolved in 2016.
It is clear that AHS wants to make the process of home warranty as difficult as possible when a homeowner tries to follow the process. Additionally, the companies they select to complete the work on their behalf are not only not licensed, it appears they do not even operate legal businesses. I would urge caution letting someone unknown into your home to work on anything, especially without some sort of verification that they are a reputable company.
Jarid, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. I have a hard time getting AHS on the phone and it takes a while. One time, I stayed on the phone for an hour to get someone. Other than that, they have been fine every time I have been able to get them on the phone. I had it bad with my dryer and the tech came in, fixed my dryer and it's working well now. I also had somebody come out to help me get the filter inside of my air conditioner. There's a flap that I had to open up to put the filter in. I'm 61 years old and there is no way in the world I could do what the contractor said I could do. I've been meaning to call somebody out to look again but I have to pay $75 if somebody comes out.
Hello, Rosemary. I do hope you can get that filter installed. The policy itself does not cover for any maintenance type of work so I would hate for you to pay a service fee for that.

American Home Shield had to send a contractor out to fix a broken faucet that was 21 years old. But they initially disputed my claim and they weren’t going to fix it so I had to call them a second time. I had a second plumber come out who talked with the Home Office at American Home Shield and they replaced my faucet. It wasn’t the greatest experience and at times, American Home Shield can be a difficult company to work with.
I had a phone conversation a couple of weeks ago with a young lady from AHS after I received an email, saying that my contract was eligible for rekeying. I thought that was great because it’s a rental property that the contract is on. But after I spoke with her, she came back and said I didn't qualify for it and that it was only for realtors. And I thought that was lousy. The email that I had clearly stated that I was eligible for it.
But otherwise, I had used them several times over the years and overall, they’re pretty good, except for some circumstances especially when you’re dealing with rental property. I have tenants that are coming down on me as a landlord and I need my home warranty company to expeditiously fix the items that are requested, as long as they’re within the contract boundaries, and they were. I should be taken care of as a business to a business client.

I've had two claims with American Home Shield in the last three months. One for my property here in Raleigh and one for the property in another location. We had a heating claim for both properties which I submitted on the telephone and I had to wait on the line for several hours which was very disconcerting. I didn't have any help and I was laying up in my bed holding on for several hours because it was too cold for me to walk around and do anything in my house. Fifteen minutes is reasonable but two hours or more is way out of line. So AHS needs to have more people to answer the phone. Other than that, all the representatives that I talked to have been very good and very helpful. Plus, the contractor that came to my Raleigh home, Ian, was excellent. Our issue was taken care of really well and he told us not to hesitate to call him if anything broke down.

I got my house in 1993 and I had American Home Shield. There was a period of time that I was laid off so I canceled it but just as soon as I went back to work, I started it back up again. I've been a customer for like 25 years and I've recommended them to everybody. I tell them that AHS is the only way to go beyond now. If you own a house, you have to have some type of home warranty plan to help you with the maintenance. I've always had really good results with AHS and whenever I used them. 99% of the time, if something breaks down, I don't have $1000 or $2000 sitting there waiting to determine what it's going to cost and I'd never know.
For example, I had a problem with my washer where lint had gotten backed up in the drain where the washer flows into. After it would spin for a while, it would overflow. I had to stop the washer and let the water go down then start it back up again. I was afraid it was getting worse. The guy sent by AHS from Webb Plumbing came and ran a snake down. The service cost me $75 for that. And when my kitchen faucet was dripping, he brought in a new little thing. We could've done it for $75 but he went and got in there and said I needed that.
AHS is the only insurance that I have ever owned that doesn't penalize me when I use it. But I won't ever use their online service because if I do, then AHS won't let me choose which contractor is going to come out. They always try to send A1 to me and they're horrible. If A1 were the only people I could get, then I would give up my American Home Shield.
The contractor AHS sent for my washer was fantastic and they're the only people I'll use. I keep my receipts so that any time that I have to do something, I make sure I get the same people. They came out and worked on my refrigerator last year. A part went out and it was over a month that we were out of the refrigerator. American Home Shield said we could just do a buyout. But we told them we were fine without a refrigerator. They never one time failed to do anything. They were even sorry even though it was Samsung's fault. Samsung listed on their website the heater repair part for the freezer and AHS needed one for the refrigerator. But Samsung was dragging their butt getting the part to them. AHS couldn't do anything more than what Samsung could do.

Our heat wasn’t working as nothing would come out of the vent when we turn it on. Some electrical component in the actual unit wasn’t telling it to kick it on. We submitted the claim online since it was easier to pull up the computer and do it that way. Also, it was fairly user-friendly. The contractor called us the same night we put in the request which was super nice. He was great. He had to go back to get a port but he came right back the same day, so it was very quick. The heater is good since the repair. Now, it’s warm so we all could sleep compared to the week when it was cold down here in South Louisiana. That particular service call we requested went exceedingly well and was an ‘A Plus’ on the scale. We’ve had really good customer service with American Home Shield even at our previous home.

He called when he was in the area and he called when he was here. He was here on time and he took care of the problem within an hour. I posted the request at about 6:00 in the morning and the contractor came within three hours which was great. He was very pleasant and he knew what he was doing. He went straight to work and he gave me some tips to look for if a problem happens in the future. He also told me that I could call them to see if I had any other problems and he would come back if I needed him to. He was very professional.
I would recommend American Home Shield, especially for someone who does not know anything about fixing appliances. It is very convenient. American Home Shield chooses great companies that come out and know what they are doing. They rarely have to come back a second or a third time. They are typically able to take care of the problem on the same day. American Home Shield is a good warranty as far as keeping up when you pay so much for your appliances. Having it is a good way to take care of your appliances.

I recently called in an air conditioner issue with American Home. It had previously been an air conditioner issue but apparently, it wasn’t. It was a frozen pipe issue. I got an automated response and the contractor that they sent was early. I’ve had him here before and he was fine. He was able to diagnose the problem in two minutes because I had the same problem as everybody else did. Those of us in the Southeast do not cover up something on the outside of the house because it doesn't get that cold and what it does is it causes something on the inside of the house to freeze. So, water drips out of the condensation unit, which is where I had issues before. Once it warmed up, it thawed out then that stuff was leaking water into my basement.
Another time, I was complaining because I wanted a silver microwave and not the black or white one that they were going to give me. AHS was supposed to give me an identical unit. They said that the units were identical but they were not. So, they told me that that I could buy it online, then they would install it. But once I bought the microwave online, they said they were no longer responsible. We had to go back and listen to the conversation where, in fact, they did tell me that I could buy it and they would install it. So, they had somebody come out and install it at their expense. But it took me a while to get it taken care of.
I've used AHS for a lot of years and I've had some issues with them in the past but for the most part, they've been okay. I tried talking a real live person and I am lucky if I get somebody after an hour. It was difficult to get the issue reconciled but I did get my issue reconciled. They owed me money. AHS is an expensive service. I'm paying $65 a month and I only use them once a year. But it's nice to have that in your pocket if you do have a very expensive service to get fixed. Also, there's a lot of hidden things. You’d think that you're covered for leakage and you're not. Nonetheless, I’m still satisfied with AHS.

But the stove is still not fixed. Not all the parts got replaced to fix like I had explained to the guy who came out to fix it. He was okay but he was a bit distracted when he came because he had lost his wallet that morning. He kept on talking about it and was hoping he would get done in time to go retrace his steps, which I could understand. I tried to explain to him that day the problems I’m having with the oven, but it's still not baking like it should. Only half the stuff is turning out overbaked while the other stuff is not baking at all. And that was the same problem I had to begin with. So I don’t know whether it was him being distracted or what the problem was.
I've been with American Home Shield since 2014 and this is my second claim with them. They’ve been really great. I filed my claims on the phone and their reps were awesome. I am dissatisfied with American Home Shield. We most recently turned in a dryer and a refrigerator repair at the same time. I usually call them for claims and I had to wait for about 20 or 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone. You can't always handle everything online. There are some things that you need to talk to somebody. And to wait 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone is not good. But then, they're always really nice. They just didn't have good service.
They assigned Sears to come work on the dryer and they said somebody from GE would contact me for the refrigerator but GE never did. AHS should know whether the vendor contacted the customer because they've got to pay them. Then, for me to get it covered again, I had to call again and wait 30 minutes on the phone to get a representative from American Home Shield to assign it to somebody else. And they charged me another home visit which I shouldn't have had to pay because it was on the claim with the dryer. I already paid for it. They said they've gotten it taken care of but I just got another bill for it last week.
This issue has been ongoing for four or five months now. They had to order a door for the refrigerator so we're still waiting to be contacted by the vendor that they've received the door. Since then I've signed on with a different home warranty company but I'm hoping I'll get the refrigerator fixed from American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have experienced and the ongoing issue. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

My fan on the ceiling screwed up and when the people AHS sent came to repair the fan, they discovered the fan hadn’t been installed properly. Now, the fan had been there for years and I didn’t know when the official code changed from just "put the fan up, putting it in a special square." They took the fan and they did not put it back so I paid the money and then I had to find somebody else. I had to buy another fan for the house and I had to find someone to put it in. It was a remote problem but by the time I knew it was a remote problem the fan was in pieces on the floor. That was not a very happy experience.
The next claim that happened, unfortunately, I wasn’t in town. My roommate was there when the tech came because my VAL heater, which is the main heat in the house, was not working. It's a wall heater and it's an old house. My roommate just went across the street to the neighbor's and when he got back the tech was gone. My roommate has been playing around with the heater, trying to make it work. He had taken the thermostat and installed a new one but we found out it wasn’t the thermostat. The heater itself would not turn on and the problem was with some kind of controller. Then, AHS contacted me and I asked when are they coming to replace it or do whatever they're going to do. AHS said the contractor canceled the appointment because it was denied.
The claim was denied because the case was that there was a missing thermostat and that's what was wrong with the wall heater, which is not true. Somebody somewhere read the tech's report and he said that the thermostat was sitting on a table. They interpreted that as, "That's why it's not working because the thermostat's not on the wall." The rest of the report stated that the controller was not working and he found the thermostat on the table. The first guy really did say what was wrong with it but whoever read the report didn’t read the whole report thoroughly.
It took a very long time for me to get them to decide to send another person out to take a look at it. When that person came out I had found a report of that other guy that had been in there and it said something about a controller. It's a very old house and it turns out that there's no way to get the controller without removing the whole thing. By removing the whole thing, there was no guarantee that something that was added was going to go back in. But in order to replace they had to make sure that it was broken. It was broken and it was not installed. A new one was required. However, these new gas connections and any adjustments to put the new flue in was extra. After all this I also had to pay almost $500.
Granted that's a whole lot less than having to replace it because the new heater would be $1,200 plus installation. I eventually get it but it was a Williams wall heater. It's almost like one of two wall manufacturers that even make this anymore. The thermostat that was provided with it, you could set the temperature but you couldn't see what the ambient temperature was to see if it was turned on at the right time. I ordered a replacement, Honeywell thermostat, that tells me the ambient temperature as well the setting. On the other hand the guy who eventually replaced the unit worked with me very carefully.
If something's going to be replaced, the required replacement should all be covered. I would expect that my warranty would replace a required thing and it didn’t because of paragraph number blah, blah. They very carefully read me the paragraph several times because that extra cost me an extra almost $500. I'm retired and my Social Security income is less than a $1,000. Now I have other income but it's not a retirement. It's because I happen to have an old house. The minute I sell that house I'm not going to get any more income except Social Security and my roommate who pays rent.

If a problem comes up, it's very easy to use American Home Shield's online system. So, when my house wasn’t heating right, I went online and had someone have it checked because everybody was cold. They then assigned a vendor that could help with the house and take a look. When they came out, I had already made my $75 co-pay and they told me that the heater is running, so they're not supposed to work on it. That was the first thing they said. So I told them just because it's running it doesn’t mean it's producing any heat. Then, they went up and looked and there's a sensor for the heater that was dirty. They said that was a homeowner responsibility and for them to clean it, there's an extra charge.
While the contractor wasn't rude, they figured they could make a few extra bucks by charging somebody for money. I was more interested in getting the house warmer than I was about cleaning it. Additionally, they charged an extra fee, which wasn’t something that they were supposed to service. And I've never had this problem with any other service people that came out to my house when I called American Home Shield. So I would look for that company’s name if they put it on, I would say no and ask them to send somebody else. Overall, I have some of my relatives use American Home Shield because I told them about it and that they’ve given good service in the past. I have been a member of American Home Shield for several years and so far, it gives me a lot of security that nothing can happen that won't be able to be fixed quickly. Recently, I came home on a really cold night from work and we had no heat. So I called American Home Shield and someone responded and I told them there's wrong with the heat pump that is associated with a particular furnace. We got a call very shortly after that from someone from a local company who said they would be out the next day, early in the morning, to resolve it and they came.
We have a dual heating system, so we were able to stay in the home because we could go to another location in the house where the heat was working well. We have a furnace there so this was more of the heat pump that covers upstairs. When the technician arrived, he did his due diligence and in a few minutes, he told us there was something wrong with the thermostat that had been improperly wired in the upstairs unit. We always had a problem with getting good heat up here in the winter time. Even when I would put on emergency heat, it seemed like it was overcompensating on the unit. But we never thought about it. We had guards come through routinely. We also have a contract with another company called SMO and they come out twice a year to inspect our equipment and our systems and make sure everything is functioning right. They've always thought everything's fine.
So this technician rewired the thermostat and then he went down to the pump and said that the motor had gone in the heat pump. I got to replace that. When he did those things, we've had heat and we haven't had any problems since then. In addition to this, whoever I interacted with at AHS was perfect. There was never any questions. They looked at my contract and made sure that I was entitled to the service I was requesting. Once they confirmed that, they said someone would call me and everything went smoothly. Overall, I had really superb service, especially with this experience. The response was prompt and there was a quick turnaround, especially over a weekend. And the gentleman that came in handled himself and explained everything to me. I thought I had to pay him for something but he said I just paid the deductible and everything was covered.

And this was the same technician both times and he just wasn’t able to reproduce the leak and it doesn’t do it but every so often. I don't know what's going on but he said he would come out again if it starts leaking again.
Overall, although there were a few surprises occasionally with some stuff that wasn’t covered, that might have been more of my fault. We’ve been with AHS for at least 20 years and I ran into a situation a couple of times where something was covered in the past like the ice maker bit on the refrigerator freezer so I just called them but now it's not covered. Still, I have recommended them many times.

However, it’s still making a whirring noise before it starts and, as far as I’m concerned, they did not correct the problem. The tech was, nevertheless, very courteous and nice. Aside from the fact that the furnace is still making noise, everything went well and was beautiful. I’ve had experience with them before and it has been quite satisfactory.

I submitted a claim for my washing machine and the process was very good. The contractor who came out was very good too. He was very polite and responsive. He fixed the unit, and it was a very good experience.

My washing machine stopped spinning so I went online and got a really speedy response from American Home Shield. I generally don’t like stuff like that because I prefer to speak to a human being but I immediately got a text message, "Yes, we received your inquiry.” They gave me the name of the company, GL Appliance, and said they would be contacting me. That happened the next day so that process is fine. GL Appliance came out and the young man said, "I can tell you what it is right away. You're using too much soap. I've seen this a lot." He did some digital and electronic stuff with the machine and he ran it through a couple of cycles and said it was fine. However, the first time I used it, it wouldn't spin. Although I prefer to speak to a human being especially since I had the problem when I realized that the machine wasn’t working, I wasn’t sure where to go from there so I started by calling GL, but they said I had to go back to AHS.
I had to go back and forth a little bit but now I know that if I have any other issues, to come back to AHS directly. AHS immediately hooked me up with Golden Appliance, which is also local to Fredericksburg, and a really nice guy came out. He worked on it for about an hour and said, "It's the cam." He found it almost right away. He fitted up the bottom machine and kept asking me questions like what I was hearing, and beyond it doesn’t spin. He went out to his truck, got the part, put it in, ran a couple of cycles and it's been working fine. I've run five loads since he fixed it.
This is the first time I've used AHS and it's good. I like it considering I had to go through two companies and get a part. The $100 service charge was reasonable because if I had gone to two independent companies when you consider labor plus the cost of the part, it would have been much more than that. I've had other companies when I moved to other regions that do the same thing and so far, this one has been really good. American Home Shield is awesome and their service was excellent.

My washing machine was making a loud noise when it went to the spin cycle. I called American Home Shield and gave them the information. They set it up for someone to come out and took my payment. Then the technician came out and they were backed up so the repair took a little longer than usual but it all finally got fixed. The machine is now working but it's making different noises all of a sudden. I'm still within the window to call them back but I haven't had an opportunity yet. I would recommend American Home Shield because I've always had good service from them. They have reasonable pricing, too.

Our microwave suddenly stopped working. I followed the power cord as far as I could but I didn’t look any further. Then, I tried all kinds of switches and everything on the wall was working, so I didn’t think it could be electric. I then called AHS and submitted a claim. The rep that I talked to was very good. She was very quick to ask the right kind of questions. She told me that I would hear from the appliance service center and they called.
The contractor then came out when he said he would. He called 15 minutes before he came to confirm. He was very business-like. Within five minutes of him being here, he found where the cord went to. It was in the back of the closet with a bunch of cups and glasses covering it. He told me that it could have been a broken slip circuit breaker. We then went to the actual circuit breaker and sure enough, that was it. It was just a loss of power. He then fixed it right away. I was happy to know that the microwave was on its own breaker on that wall.
Having AHS gives me a sense of security and makes me feel less anxious when something goes wrong. Originally, I thought, "Do we really need this? This place is not old." Then within just a couple of months, we got a problem with the dishwasher. We've used them thrice this year and each time it came across so well. I encourage people to sign up.

We've had a couple of calls to American Home Shield in the last few months. One of the calls was for our dishwasher which was not working properly. The company they sent out determined what needed to be done but when the next gentleman came out to actually fix it he didn’t do the other item the first gentleman wrote down. He just replaced a rubber around our dishwasher. And it seemed like he still invoiced them for what was originally said that needed to be done. So I called the company to let them know and they said that as long as they come out, they didn’t care much about whether they did everything that was supposed to have been, as long as it was working. We can use our dishwasher now but it still doesn’t work properly. We can close the door, press the button for it to come on and it doesn’t come on. It's like it kicks it off. It takes a while then we'll try it again. And then it will work.
And the problem now is that we had paid the $100 but AHS keep saying they didn’t get the $100. So, I called the company that came out and they said, "Yes, we did send it to them." And so, my husband has been taking care of that with AHS but it's hard to get someone at customer service. He might be on the phone an hour or so. They need to revamp their customer service line.
Angela, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

Our relay switch was loose and I called AHS to make a claim but I had a little problem with getting connected to do the claim. When the technician came, he taped the relay switch up and it was making a good connection. He also did another adjustment to it. The people who came were very good and I have no complaints. However, the heater is still not doing what it’s supposed to do which is warming the house and I’m going to need them to come out. Other than that, my experience with AHS has been very satisfactory.

Originally, I called for service right around the holidays, but I did not get a call back from the assigned vendor. I called them a few times and I received an email that the service had been completed, so I called AHS and said that I had not received a call from the vendor and the service had not been completed. They then sent me to a different vendor who came out and quickly fixed the problem. Although they had to get the part and then come back another day to put it in, it was not a problem. The other claim was for a plumbing issue. We had a sewer smell coming out of my toilet. The plumber came and took a look but said that my coverage didn't cover smells. We did a few things to try to relieve the problem, but it did not work, so I just called my local plumber outside of Home Shield.
I did both claims online, which I liked. But I did not like that I can't add information about the problem. I basically just had to click on "furnace." You should be able to describe your problem or be more specific about what appliance and give more information instead of just clicking, "I'm having a problem with the toilet." Because that doesn't really describe the issue and it doesn't give the contractor any idea why or how long the service might take or what the issue was. On the whole, my home warranty has paid for itself. But one has to be very careful because some of the vendors they send out are really sketchy and creepy. I've had a couple of very sketchy vendors and I have said that I'm not working with those people anymore. But some were generally fine.

The HVAC stopped working in the middle of the night and we called American Home Shield the next morning. The contractors took care of the problem and the HVAC has been working fine since the repair. However, I wish American Home Shield would allow us to do two claims in one submission so we don’t have to pay two deductibles. HMS does that. I have two homes, one has American Home Shield and my other home has HMS, and I like HMS better. But American Home Shield is okay although I know people who had problems with them where they did not cover the system that needed to be replaced. They did that in my home as well. Also, the people that were sent out have to do a better job of making sure that the people are covered because customers pay the high amount every year to keep the warranty program.

I went through the automated system when I filed a claim to AHS for our leaking water heater. Sometimes, when I go online, it’s tricky how to pick things, but other than that, even when I’m speaking to a representative, or calling directly and using the automated system, I’ve never had any kind of problems with filing a claim. Every contractor that they sent out for me has been excellent. I’ve had problems like plumbing, refrigeration and dishwasher and the contractors were all prompt, on time and they called back. We just had an air-conditioning system put in and the guy that they sent out was amazing.
But I’ve only had one contractor I had a problem with when I had some issues with my washer and dryer. It took them a month to fix my washer. They came out three times. They didn’t fix the washer properly the first time they came out. It ran for a while and then they had to come back out again. It took them a month to fix it. They came back out when we had issues with the dryer and it took them many times to fix the dryer. So, I didn’t want them back to my home, but for some strange reason, AHS kept sending those particular people back, so I wasn’t too happy when it came to my washer and dryer.
I understand small businesses need help and everybody needs a chance. But if someone is telling them that they don’t want these people in their home because they’re not comfortable with their job, then AHS should be taking note. That made me want to leave American Home Shield, but because of all the rest of the good service I had for them, it outweighed the bad service I got with the washer and dryer.

Our hot water tank went out on us and I submitted a claim with AHS, which I did online. I've also submitted claims over the phone but it's a bit easier to do it online as it's very simple to do. The contractors who came to our house were good. We ended up getting a new water tank. I had a problem one time and talked to another rep and they got it done. They were very quick. AHS is professional in the way that they talk to people on the phone. They get the job done when needed and I've recommended them.
