I’ve only used American Home Shield once, but my experience was very good, smooth and easy. And I appreciate that. My shower was not draining and the water was standing in it. I submitted my claim by phone. The young man came and fixed it. He also fixed another thing for me and it’s working fine. My shower drains now. He was very good and I was impressed with him. I’d sure like him to come back if I have anything like that again. I highly recommend American Home Shield.
Hi, Patricia. Standing water in the shower is such an irritant. We are so glad that was resolved for you. Thank you for letting us know about your experience.

I got the keys to my house that we had just bought, and we couldn't get in the house. It was a deadbolt. It was super easy to submit the claim online to American Home Shield. I called them to have the door rekeyed and the locksmith came out right away. He was professional and quick, and he rekeyed all my doors, so I could use my key. The new locks work. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield for my air condition. The contractor they sent out was good. He was very friendly, confident and he fixed the air condition. I've been very pleased with AHS.
Good afternoon, Mr. Cresson. I am jealous that you are running your air conditioner! Please let us know when we can shield your home for any future service needs.

I called American Home Shield when I had problems with my furnace. Originally, I was shuffled to the automatic claim and when the call was ended, I realized that I had ordered the wrong service so I had to call back. I had to cancel the first order that I ordered in and reschedule because it was scheduled with an electrician and we had to reorder it with a heat and air guy. It was difficult getting a hold of a rep and I was told it was a busy time so they suggested using the automated system but I waited for a representative. It was probably a 10-minute wait.
It was a two-day wait for the technician and he came yesterday. Once he got out, he was very nice and professional. He did some research for me and it turned out the issue was my thermostat. He called me this morning with some information on the different types of thermostats and what American Home Shield would thought it would pay for each system. I told him that I would get back with him on Monday and went through the info with my husband last evening.
Hello, Celeste. I apologize that it was difficult to reach us to correct the work order placement, but I am so glad that the tech who came out is resolving the issue for you. Please let us know if you need our assistance in the future.

There was a problem with our kitchen sink and disposal. I went online, scheduled a repair, and American Home Shield called me right back and scheduled a guy to come out. Everything works after the repair. I've been with American Home Shield for years and I had no problems with them. American Home Shield is good and it's worth it. There are monthly payments but it’s just kind of an insurance. If something goes out and they can’t fix it, they replace it.
Good afternoon, Mark. We are so pleased to know that you have had good service requests during your time with AHS. Thank you for your patronage over the years.

Our dishwasher broke and I submitted the claim online to AHS. Their website was very user-friendly and good. The technician took less than a week to come and when he came, I had a very good interaction with him. He was very thorough and knew what he was doing. There was some part of the thing underneath that he had to fix. He got the part in and it was another week before he came back to fix the dishwasher. There wasn't any more leak since then. Having a warranty is very valuable because instead of having to spend hundreds of dollars on a new machine or even getting someone out there, it's a flat rate. And everything seems to be included as long as it's something that we didn't cause.

I bought a house that's 30-something years old, and I've been here since July. I noticed a water stain on the ceiling of the garage where the bathtub was, so I called American Home Shield to have someone come and check it out. Their response has been good as far as when I book and they respond quickly. The people that they have sent out have been good people that have been nice to work with. The technician wanted to come back and reevaluate in two months after I've used the tub a whole lot because it's a tub I rarely use. The situation now is it didn’t seem to be wet. We didn't want to rip out the whole garage ceiling until we were sure it was an ongoing problem. It's still hanging in the balance.
When I had some electrical issues, the electrical part that I needed to be done wasn't covered, so that wasn't too great. I've also called AHS three times about a dishwasher that I have issues with. There's still an odor in it that's not resolved and I'm not sure where that's coming from. AHS is not perfect but it's good to have a warranty and I'm thankful I have it.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield last night for my heater that was not working in my HVAC unit. It was just making a bunch of noise like something was torn apart or rattled. It was still heating but the blower wasn't blowing the heat throughout the house. The contractor that they sent was pleasant and he did what he had to do. Anytime I needed to call him and check on the fan, he would pick up the phone and he didn't dodge my calls. He was helpful when he was here. He did a temporary fix where he had to put a fan, which is working now and he is supposed to come back and finish installing the new fan which was ordered. I just spoke with him yesterday and he said it will be here Tuesday or Wednesday.
The only problem I have with AHS is I very seldom get the same repair person. I'm outside the city limits and AHS normally dispatches people from Shreveport and Monroe when there are people that can do some of the work from the city of Minden. They should use the local person that way I don't have to wait. It's not a big wait but if they use the local person they would be here the same date as opposed to scheduling out two or three days. Also, people are not familiar with the area so most of the time I had to really tell them how to get here.
Sometimes when the plumbing guy comes out and if I didn’t specifically have on request exactly what's wrong, he’d tell me in a minute that he can't do anything because it's not on the sheet. For example, if I say my pipes are leaking and they get out here and the faucet needs to be changed out. Now I may have gone and bought the faucet knowing it needs to be changed out. But if that's not part of the original plan they won't do anything about that. Still, if anybody is getting service, I would recommend AHS to them. But what I would truly recommend is that you set aside a certain amount of money per month just in case something goes wrong that way you can take care of it yourself. Because every time I had someone come out, it was $75 and this year I have done that twice, so that is $150. If I set $75 aside a quarter, that's 300 that probably knocks out whatever I needed to be done.

I’ve been having problems for a long time. And last year when I was out of town, I called American Home Shield and we never got through to them. It was a horrible experience. And I ended up having to call my own vendor and they wouldn’t reimburse me so I was really mad. The next time something happens, I’ll definitely call American Home Shield so If I have to have something replaced, I’m getting what I pay for this insurance.
I did not have a good experience last year but I had a very good one this year so I’m very pleased. I like the contractor a lot. He was very efficient, professional and honest. He did a few adjustments and so far, so good. He told me something that I felt was valid about my unit, not meaning to be totally replaced for a while. And I like to hear that because we’re coming from the other perspectives. You have the person and showing it, telling you it’ll last longer than you think where the person is trying to sell you a new one. And I was happy with it. If anyone asks me, I would tell them that when I called American Home Shield, they got back to me pretty quick. They got someone who really seemed knowledgeable for me. And I felt that they were very honest and I wasn’t about to get rip off.

I'm gonna check it out one of these days and see if everything is normal. If not, I will call American Home Shield. I've told my family that they're better than everybody. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is straightforward and easy to do. You can do it over the internet, but if you want to wait for someone to answer the phone, you might fall asleep. I’ve been with AHS for a long time and I’ve never had a problem, until these last two claims which have been terrible. When I had no water in the bathroom, the plumber they sent out didn’t feel that the washer and his time were as important to his customer as his schedule was to others. And then the recent one had to do with the washing machine. I talked to AHS about it and they were in the process of either finding parts or making a decision as to whether they want to fix it or replace it. Unfortunately, the information that they gave me was not very satisfying because I had been without a washing machine for a week. My washing machine needed attention big time.
AHS had fixed one of the main issues of not getting through the phone because I didn’t have any problem getting through them when I called. But, ever since I got charged the $75 upfront on my credit card, I hadn't got any good service. Before, they did super, but they didn't seem to be motivated to produce a quality service and they were not administering their contractors enough. And this seemed to be a rather immediate change. The contractors that came didn't seem to have any sense of urgency. I had two professionals out here and neither one of them could complete the job the same day.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Whenever AHS said they're going to come, they came and they did a good job.

I called American Home Shield for my washing machine, which they eventually replaced. The contractor who came was good. He came about a few days to check and he told me about the replacement unit that they had for me. But I didn’t want that and they didn’t have the one I wanted. So I went to the store and got one. I then sent my receipt in for them to reimburse me. But American Home Shield doesn’t pay for the whole thing; they only pay a certain amount. And then another thing, they’re going up next year. And we started going up. The process took about a couple of weeks until I had my new replacement washer and everything’s been fine.

We had a great experience on our most recent claim with American Home Shield, as always. We had a furnace issue and I called on a Sunday, just expecting to make an appointment during the weekend. A young man called me an hour later and said he was in Aurora and that he can be here in an hour. So he came out. I told him what the problem was and then he changed one fan. It seemed to take care of it for a few days and then the noise came back. He came right back out as soon as I called them. One of his associates did and then changed the motor. It has been fine since. The furnace seems to be running better and it doesn’t make the noises that it was making.
American Home Shield is great and opening the claim was wonderful. I just had to make the full payment. There was a little misunderstanding about how the payments were to be made. I ended up having to pay off the remainder which I did and then I could make the claim. I was a little confused about the payment procedure. But other than that, it’s always a good experience. Every time we call them, it’s stellar. We tell friends that the AHS warranty is a great product. It’s really worth the investment and takes the stress out of wondering if something in the house is going to break. If it does, we’re well covered. AHS should market the elderly folks a little bit more.

We had a switch and an outlet in one room that just stopped working. I couldn't figure out the breaker and the GFIs were flipped. Since I couldn't figure it out, I opened a ticket using American Home Shield's online tool, which was convenient. I'm used to submitting as I went through that just from buying the new house. It works well, has a good response time and doesn't ask me for too much information. It also gives me the information of the vendor that's going to be used.
The electrician showed up and checked all the wiring. He was able to determine that he needed to redo the wires. It was an easy fix for him and we have gotten good results. The contractors that come out and perform the work have always done a good job. I had some issues in getting a claim paid last year but eventually that was paid. Other than that they've been good about paying. The service has been worth the money. Heating was not coming on and the house was unpleasant. It was cold. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. Then, they sent me a note that said that they received my request and told me which vendor they were going to assign. They then said that I was going to hear from the vendor within a day or two to schedule the exact time. The vendor gave me about a four-hour window. Then we met at the house and we went up in the attic. I showed him the heaters and the thermostat and it turned out to be a minor issue. The technician determined that the thermostat was loose, so it was not contacting. He tightened the thermostat to ensure that it was contacting and it fixed the problem. It started working right away and the house was comfortable within a few hours. The only issue was that it took them about two days to come and it would have been nice to get out a little quicker, but it was not that bad. Overall, it was a good service.

I filled out a form and, either later that day or early the next morning, I got a call from the vendor about setting up an appointment. The contractor also texted me their arrival time, and I could click on a button and see them en route. They came and took a look, and then gave me a summary. And I had a non-covered item. They went by what the warranty covers, which I understand. And then I was given some routes I could take if I chose to bear the expense.

I had a problem with my furnace in early February and I put an order in. It was cold weather and I fooled with the unit. I kept shutting the power off and back on. It finally came back on, and I canceled the service call to American Home Shield. Then a couple of weeks later, I had the same problem, and I couldn’t get it to work. When I contacted the contractor on a Monday, they weren't going to be able to get to my house until Thursday. I complained about that, and they said they would put the service call on hold and I could call the warranty company and see if they can assign it to somebody else. I did that but AHS could not assign it to somebody else. I assumed the contractors then would be out there on Thursday, but they had the call on hold and they couldn’t come out. Somehow, two charges for $75 got posted to my credit card account and I had a tough time getting the credit on that, but eventually, AHS credited me back.
Submitting my claims online to AHS was easy. The furnace people that were out had come out one other time for my air conditioner, and they were very good. But they had sent the dumbest people in the world to my house for other things. For my air conditioning problem, they had somebody that was an hour away, to come out five different times and they could never figure it out. When I complained loudly enough, the job was assigned to another contractor who came out and fixed it right away. They got the wrong size tank, and it was bending the pipes that led to my water meter. When they installed the tank, they rerouted the piping to where when I had another plumber come in a month later to do something different. He called his buddy to look at this, and he just left. They charged me 25 bucks to correct it. I don’t think American Home Shield has the top-of-the-line contractors to come out and fix these things.

We bought our house a few months ago and the realtor bought a one-year AHS warranty for us. We didn't read the actual policy at the time but we were told that it covers everything. However, the first thing we called them out for was for our well which wasn't working right. We found out that they don't cover anything in it so we had to pay for all of that out of pocket. We also didn't know about the service fee until that time. Then, I called for the hot tub and still none of that was covered. So there was a bit of misrepresentation on the realtor's part. We should have read what the policy covers and what it doesn't.
But having AHS' policy is a money saver and I'm glad we have it. We had our ice maker replaced and the contractor they sent was professional, friendly, timely, and did a great job. It was a great experience. We've also had them send someone out for our furnace which kept tripping and it was also a good experience. The two repairmen American Home Shield sent were old school. They’re older guys and they know what to do. They know how to be courteous or they’re gonna let you know they’re on their way. This was the best I’ve ever had in all the times that I’ve been using American Home Shield. Sometimes a contractor would call and say he’s gonna be here in such and such a time but then he doesn’t get here until a little while later. But these guys were on point with everything. I was pleased because they were here in the time frame that they gave me, which helped me ‘cause I needed to go out.
The glass had broken inside my stove and because of the water, the bottom of my stove was rusted as well. The contractor had the parts come to the house. They came last Friday and he was here on Monday. I got everything replaced and it looks like I got a brand-new stove. I’m happy. The other claim was for the air conditioner and Jim brought the parts when he came. I did not have to wait for the parts to come, which was awesome. Any time I use Home Shield, Jim’s company is the one I want because he was awesome.
There was only one time that I had a bad experience with American Home Shield and that was when this guy came to fix my air conditioner. It worked for a couple of hours and then it didn’t work. He came back with his son and they did something but it still didn’t work. I called American Home Shield and the representative gave me the number for the company but they were terrible. The man told me there was nothing he could do and to contact American Home Shield. I had to still pay out of pocket for someone else to come do what the man didn’t do. The contractor pointed out what the other man didn’t do and this contractor was gonna do it for nothing but that wasn’t fair and I paid him $75.
I had started to drop my coverage with American Home Shield but then I decided I was not gonna let one bad apple mess up my stuff because I was really happy with American Home Shield. I’ve been dealing with them for years and I’m really pleased with them. When I call them, I get good service and I haven't had to wait long lately. If there is anybody I can recommend the warranty to, I do it because the warranty is worth the money.

About three weeks ago we called American Home Shield to service our AC. The air was blowing hot. The tech came out and serviced it but the air is blowing hot still. All of a sudden the air condition went from about 180 to 400 a month. So I thought there's something wrong with the AC. And the guy said there was but he was very nice. I hope they fix what they originally were supposed to fix without charging me again. I will find that out when I call.

My refrigerator broke so I called American Home Shield on the phone. The company is excellent but the wait is unbelievable. Sometimes I am on hold for an hour. My phones would lose their battery power because I'm on hold for so long and that's frustrating. But once you get someone, they answer your questions and are very helpful. It was wonderful once I got connected and a contractor got to my place in five hours. He was excellent and he answered my question. He came in with the equipment and a computer. He diagnosed what was wrong and he needed a new compressor. He then went to his computer and attempted to locate a compressor. It was a Whirlpool refrigerator but it was old. It took him less than five minutes to get an answer that that part had gone out of circulation two years ago so he was unable to repair my refrigerator.
I had to call AHS back and I was again on hold for an hour. It was for their buyout process and that turned out to be a little disappointing. They give you a refrigerator comparable to your old one. When I bought my refrigerator in the 80s, it was $2,200. But AHS only gave me $1,500 and some change so I had to pay out of pocket another $600 to upgrade it. I had a three-door refrigerator before and I wanted the specific one that I'd seen at Costco. I wanted to go to stainless steel. My other one was not stainless steel. But AHS wouldn't go a penny above and they wanted to give me a Kenmore. I didn't want any Kenmore appliances in my kitchen.
I purchased the house in 1980 and some of the things are kind of old and some of the things are newer. I'm old and a widow. I don't know how guys can fix things so I have to call and get help. And having AHS is good. They've had to come four times. The takeaway with my old refrigerator was the people said they couldn't guarantee not damaging something while taking it out of the house. It turned out that one guy was new and had only been with the company for a week. He damaged the kitchen counter and was in a lot of trouble. I was insulted by the guy because he wanted me to sign the form that he wouldn't be responsible for any damage. I refused and said that he had to be responsible for the damage because there was no reason to damage anything. He ripped the paper out of my hand and after that, they walked away.
I had to start getting through on the phone process again and waited until 9 o'clock at night. Some other people from the company came because they had to come at the end of their route. I spent a lot of time being on hold waiting for a repairman to come and then they had to deliver the refrigerator. My refrigerator has an ice maker and a water dispenser and delivery people refused to hook it up to the water connection because it was copper and they were not allowed to touch copper. They said the code is a local zoning. But when I called the community, there was no such building code ordinance against using copper tubing for a water hook up for the refrigerator.
Hi, Susan. Thank you for hanging in there with us. We have made huge strides in hiring and hope that your hold time moving forward is minimal.

We were very pleased with American Home Shield. We discovered that the oven wasn't working and we thought, hopefully, it would be a simple repair. But they didn't have the part so we had to get a new oven. They determined that we needed a new one but it took them forever to get the person to come out and deliver it. We went for a month without an oven and nobody likes that. We also had to call them two or three times because we felt like we had been forgotten. Then we got put on hold for hours, but I didn't say anything because I was glad that we finally got a nice new oven in there. We had a garage door problem, too, and that was taken care of very quickly. They fixed it on the first trip but there was a 2 to 3 inch close at the bottom, so the one of the techs came back and adjusted it, which he was happy to do. All in all, AHS is a reputable company and we appreciate their service.

American Home Shield has always followed through with what they said they were going to do. They have been absolutely phenomenal. When my stove went out, I filed the claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the reps were great. The technicians who came out were good. They looked at the stove and determined that it needed to be fixed. AHS said they needed more information which I gave them. And then, they sent me an email telling me the stoves I could pick from and the one that they recommend. I took the one they recommended, which they then ordered and installed.
I've recommended AHS to several friends and the company has gotten several referrals off of me. I would tell my friends the experiences I went through with AHS. With the AHS insurance, the $75 plus the annual fee or monthly payment would already have your problem taken care of. And if AHS could fix it, they would. And if not, they would replace it with something that's comparable to what's on the market today. AHS will send you recommendations as well. Getting an insurance is the best thing to do.

Being a senior citizen, you just have to have somebody that you can really trust, and I trust American Home Shield. They didn’t try to come in and lie to me. They recognized that I was a senior citizen and they were so kind. The contractor even said, “We’re gonna get the part for you. The repaired item has been as expected. It’s delivering hot water as it should. For a while, I couldn’t take more than a five-minute shower, which was not fun and it was very fast. Now, everything is back to normal.
I’ve submitted claims to AHS a couple of times. I had one claim last year for some pool equipment. AHS was great and they did everything they could. But the contractor that AHS had in the area was unresponsive in many ways. But, the plumbing contractor for my most recent claim was very professional. They came out, told me exactly what the problem was and what he did to fix it. He also told me that it should all be covered then dealt with his office and made sure that it was. It was very smooth.
I’ve suggested AHS to several friends and they’ve picked up the contracts with them. AHS's warranty covers many things and they are very responsive. Once in a while, you get a contractor that isn’t as responsive, but just get back to them and it gets straightened up pretty quickly. The service fee per incident is also reasonable. AHS is a good place to contract with for a home warranty.

A few years ago I made a claim for our HVAC system. They came and changed the inside portion of the unit. With time I had to call them again for the same issue and they responded to me saying they do not insure botched jobs, I explained to them that it was done by someone they sent to which they responded saying they were not responsible because they had no record of the job and that on top of that the company that did the job no longer existed. They didn't help me and I had to absorb all the costs for all the damages and work that was not done or done incorrectly.
Now they are doing the same thing to me with our washer. In December they came out for a loud noise that was happening during the spin cycle they replaced the motor and transmission of the washer, I called them back the next day because it was still making that noise and now it was also leaking, they came me another appointment and the technician never called or showed up (THIS HAPPENED TWICE), and when he did he said he could come around 8pm or later so I had to reschedule on the third appointment. A different guy came and all he did was turn on the washer and record the sound and tub movement and said it was the drive rod. After that appointment no one called or came so I spent around a month calling almost daily they could never give me an answer because they couldn't get a hold of the technician because they have no report or record from that company.
At this point I am very frustrated so I asked if another company could come, many calls later and two months later they sent out another company. When he came he asked for an overview of what had happened. I told him everything from before along with the fact that the washer was not leveling, he asked if someone had opened that washer up I told him yes he said that issue was that they never fully adjusted the washer correctly, the leak has damaged the stator, motor, suspension rods, along with the bearings he asked if I still used the washer I said yes because I was told I could he told me to stop using it because if it gave up on me it would flood my house. Now American Home Shield say as they can't replace it because it is my fault that I overloaded it, so if they think it is my fault then why did they replace the motor and transmission the 1st time.

I have AHS on 2 properties. Both properties have had plumbing issues. The plumbers they scheduled are both low rating companies. First one came for a leaking shower, told my tenant that the shower is leaking behind the marble panel through the floor and causing the water leak in the room below. They told her we needed a whole new shower enclosure. ($2800 dollars, not covered by the warranty.)
I went over and opened up the ceiling and ran the water. Clearly it was leaking from the drain as it began to drip down the pipe that showed water stains. Called them back to the job, finally they admitted it was a $35 gasket that went bad. When I called them on their BS claim that it was the faulty shower he said,\ "Well it's complicated, we're dealing with insurance". Second house different plumber, came out and noted the water heater was busted and needed to be replaced. Then proceeded to make claim that I had to have $454 worth of additional modification made to install the water heater. I cashed out on the repair to have it installed by a reputable plumber. For $800. What a rip off. Don't use them. Problem is they're all a bunch of scumbags.

When I called AHS and told them to send someone out to fix the issues they advised I had a guarantee for (90 days), and if it broke down they would fix it for free. The problem is that it's a vacation home and I knew I wouldn't be there for the next 90 days. Tough Luck! Recently I attempted to call AHS to speak to someone on the Corp Exec Staff. When the light underneath the microwave was out, my wife submitted the claim to American Home Shield and she called whoever they recommended. She set up the time for the tech to come out and at that time, we had an issue with our dishwasher also so it worked out really good. The tech looked at both our microwave and our dishwasher. The microwave had a motherboard issue and the tech recommended that the unit be replaced.
On the other hand, the dishwasher was throwing a code and the tech said that there was something electronically wrong with it. It has a green light to let you know that it has finished its cycle and if everything is okay, it will have a solid green light. But if there's an error, it flashes the green light so many times. The tech said if it flashes the green light again, we need to count how many times it flashes and then he can look up the code and find out exactly what the issue is. Overall, American Home Shield did good. They were very professional and whenever they've told us people would be out here, people have come right out and were even a little early. Yesterday, they were going to deliver the microwave between 8 and 11 and they delivered it right at 8:30, so that was great.

My kitchen sink was leaking up underneath so the contractor that was sent out by AHS tightened up the faucet underneath and solved that problem. However, the actual faucet lever was a one-handle so it was hard to turn off and get it to stop leaking. It had to be pushed down and turned kind of funky. The contractor tried to tighten that. However, he said that American Home Shield would not replace it because I could get it to turned off, and I was like “Okay, but I have to do 20 different steps to get it to turn off." That was not very pleasing to me because I didn't think it was going to stop working.
I also had one contractor come out when the screws of my bathtub drain stopper wrested out and fell out. He told me that there was no way to fix it unless I took the entire bathtub out. He also told me to let him know when I was ready to remodel. But I said, “I’ll never let you know anything because I won’t be calling you ever again.” I’ve tossed around canceling my policy. My parents had one too and I’ve told them to cancel theirs as well. I thought that if AHS was willing to do that to me, then what else would they be willing to do to my elderly parents? I have been with American Home Shield for six years now and I definitely see a decline in their customer service and their contractor’s quality. If it’s something easy and cheap for them to fix or complete, they’d do it.

I never take insurance because when I ask for something, 9 times out of 10, it's not within the contract. Once the person comes out and fixes the problem or doesn’t fix it, they charge my credit card. So I'd rather save my money and if something goes wrong, I'll pay for it myself. When I lived in Florida, the same things happened. I had a couple of calls saying that this was covered or that was not covered. I'm paying for it months and months, years and years, and I get nothing out of it. Then if something breaks, they say that it's not covered and that’s a waste of money. We've had some issues with the first claim so my husband tried to call a couple of times as well and he was on hold for over an hour. While the cost is fair, it just sucks if it's something simple and you pay $75 dollars and nothing was broken. Like when my AC went out and the guy said the batteries in the thermostat was switching it off. I paid 75 for that when it was really just the batteries. When I looked it up on my agreement, it said faucets and stuff but it wasn’t clear to me that something would not be covered. I had no water pressure in one sink and the contractor said it was the way that it was set up and there’s an aerator in it which I had no clue. He didn’t recommend a different aerator and said that it’s the way it’s going to be, but it’s never been that way before.
There was no pressure at all and there was nothing to be done about it because of the way that it was set up and because of the aerator. He checked the other ones and they were fine. And then he said that the one on the tub was broken but was not covered so I went out and he showed me what to do and what to buy. I just felt discouraged because he was here for 10 minutes and it was $75. I’m on a limited income and that’s a lot of money. But the company was excellent and they were very courteous. The contractor was very professional and very informative. He gave me information that I would not have known what to do. He went out of his way and he was a very nice man.
He found a faucet that was leaking outside because he went all over and he thought that it was on the hose. So, the next morning, I went out and it was still leaking so then I called. He came back on his own time because it wasn’t covered by the company and he put in a part all on his own time and didn’t charge me for it. He felt really bad coming in and charging me $75. They really understood.
I had a very good experience and I’m very happy with the company and how professional they were. I just wish people would take the time to explain to make sure that a claim is covered before someone is sent out. It can be expensive but it works out well all the way around. And then, when it got cold, I put the heater on and I had the same problems so I had to call in. I had to pay the co-pay again and they fixed it. The first group really tried. They thought they had fixed the heater but they didn't spend enough time testing it. They put a new compressor in but they didn't fix the panel. The second group was very good and they fixed the panel on the compressor, which was the problem.
Overall, I had to wait a while for AHS to have my heater fixed which made my electric bill very high. It was very expensive but it was okay. I'm dissatisfied with AHS but I just signed the new contract. Apparently, I'm on an old contract where I had to pay so much. I need AHS to explain that to me instead of leaving me in an old contract that they don't even offer anymore. I feel like I should've been offered that. I changed my contract to a different one and I think I won't have to pay all this much with the new contract. I would advise my friends to get the new contract and the very best one that AHS has.

We had an AC problem and I filed a claim with American Home Shield. The coils froze when we had a cold snap. The defrost cycle couldn't keep up with the extreme cold because it was like in the 20s. It was ridiculously cold and I was too surprised that that was the case as we haven't had any issues with the heating or cooling. Our neighbor heard some noise and knew that the fan blade of the outside unit was hitting the ice from where the coils had iced over. It was still temperate in the house so I just turned off the unit.
I submitted the ticket online then very shortly thereafter, I got an alert telling me which company was alerted. The company contacted me and they were out within a few hours from the time I submitted the claim. I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to get someone out. The technician was very cordial. He came to check out our AC. He ran some tests and checked to make sure the Freon levels were good, and he came back and said that everything was okay. We haven't had any issues since then. We had another cold snap after that where it got down pretty cold but we didn't have any issues with that icing over. American Home Shield is a good service. I was definitely very happy with the response time as well as the expertise of the technicians they sent.

Our garbage disposal started leaking and so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. Their automated system claim process worked good and it was prompt. There was a young man that came out and he was quick, efficient and polite as could be. He left the work very clean and had a garbage disposal in his truck. He looked and checked the problem and changed it out. He was gone in just a few minutes and did an excellent job. The new garbage disposal is working now. It has been good with AHS so far. We've also had two calls on the furnace and the second time they came out for it, they got it fixed.
Hello, Ralph. Thank you for advising us of your service experiences. Glad that furnace was taken care of. Always let us know when there is a lingering issue so that we can get the company back out without any other fee's being due.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. My washer got stuck and wouldn’t turn on so I called American Home Shield and they sent me a tech right away the next week. The tech was from Russia and he was awesome. He told me that he needed to order a part and that the part was going to be here on Saturday. Everything was on time. He scheduled his visit from 8 to 12 and he showed up at 8:30. He did everything professionally, got it done, tested it and went away. Everything is perfect since the repair. The only thing I'm not happy with is the monthly payment. It's ridiculous. I don’t mind the deductible when something is broken in my house, but $47 is a lot of money.
I've been with American Home Shield for a long time, and the representatives are so sweet every time I call and they don't put me on hold. They set appointments for me and they want to make sure that the contractors arrive on time. They follow up with me and call me back as well as tell that the driver is on the way. I was with Sears for so long but I never got that service from Sears. American Home Shield is the best insurance company and I also begged my sisters to go with them.

I had two separate plumbing claims about four weeks apart due to some leaks with a pipe. These were small leaks, but one caused some damage underneath since it had been going on for a long time. The contractor that American Home Shield sent out was good. It was a company called Durango and they came two different times and fixed it both times. We were really pleased and we would use them again.
It’s easy to submit a claim with AHS online but on the phone, it’s always a long wait to get anybody. This recent claim was a different leak and of course, I couldn't call anyone at AHS, so the company thought they were coming to redo what they had originally done since it was within a certain amount of time from the last repair. So when they came out, the contractor submitted it as a new claim. Overall, American Home Shield is a good insurance and they have good service providers, just don’t expect to talk to anybody.

My dryer wouldn’t start back in December. American Home Shield took two weeks to send somebody out. They fixed it but it broke again this week. When I called American Home Shield, they said the 30-day warranty for that was gone so I had to pay another $75 to have a new service ticket. I wasn’t happy about that. I had to use the dryer next door at my parents’ house. But the length of the time it took them to fix it was 30 minutes and they put a new belt on it. I thought it was good as new. Then, it broke again Tuesday night and I called American Home Shield. They gave me a different company this time and they'll get out here about Monday.
That company called me the next day and said that American Home Shield sent a ticket but didn’t tell them what was broken. I told them it was the dryer. Then they asked how old it was and I told them. They said that could be a problem because it's about 10 years old and sometimes it's hard to find parts for. If that was the truth then they will be out here Monday and tell me they’ll have to order the parts, then I’ll be without a dryer for another week at least. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a good 15 years paying $40 a month and I’m a little disappointed. I forward so much money into it that I could have bought 20 dryers by now.
I’ve used it for four claims at the most and I’m contemplating of getting rid of it because I haven’t used it that much. But as soon as I get rid of it and something major will happen, I’ll be screwed so I sure wish it didn’t take so long to get somebody to fix things. Two weeks is too long. I get it that they can’t come right away, but they should be able to look at the available companies. Tell me who can get out here the quickest and then let me select them. If I don’t want that company, then I’ll use somebody else. But instead, it was "Who do you want to use and then I’ll tell you if they’re available or when they come out." That’s kind of tough. If I could do it on my own and find somebody else that was willing to use American Home Shield, instead of having to go through the contract, I’d probably would have it fixed by now.

Our most recent claim was about the problems with my air conditioner. We went online to submit it and American Home Shield’s website was good. It was for a replacement of the fan and an odor that we smelled. I made the claim for the fan at 2AM and the contractor showed up at 10AM. The contractor was knowledgeable and he made sure he was taking care of everything and he did well. He showed me what the problem was, why, and then he went ahead and fixed it. He also walked me through what he did, and he made me feel comfortable, too. When the contractor first came out, he completed it. The second guy who came out went ahead and replaced our temperature gauge, changing it from the regular mercury filled to a digital, and the air conditioner has been working great since then.
We appreciate American Home Shield. The most important thing I could do is to have a warranty on my property because I’m able to be relieved of it. If I have a problem, I can go and get help with and be comfortable with who's coming out. We're looking forward to where they would have to come out and see about our connection for our AC unit.

My townhome was built in ’94 and I’ve done a lot of repairs and replacements of the major systems, the roof, the air conditioning, and the heating. I was expressing a concern about my appliances that are now 12 years old and my friend highly recommended American Home Shield. So I checked them out and picked up a policy. Recently, my gas stove and oven stopped working. When I turned the temperature on, nothing happened. I called American Home Shield and waited for about 15 minutes to get a hold of someone. I went through a lot of loops before I got to talk to somebody and I didn’t like their whole process of filing the claim. It was a little challenging to do it online and even more challenging on the phone.
I had two phone calls about my contract that were such a turnoff and the person I talked to on the phone the first time was so snippy that I thought I was going to find another home warranty company. But the guy that came out to fix the stove was wonderful and excellent. Plus, the oven has been working perfectly since the repair. I also had a plumber come out through them a year ago and they did a good job contracting with a professional organization that did the work. So the way they talk to people on the phone isn’t really great but the bottom line is whoever’s coming out is going to do a confident job. Now, I’m going to be selling my home and I’m going to call American Home Shield and find out about offering an extended warranty on the house for the buyer to make it more appealing.

In August, I had Sears here to replace the drum of my washing machine because the drum was broken. Since Sears replaced it in August, I’ve had issues all the time. It’s squeaking, it’s shaking, it’s molding and it’s catching all of my laundries in between the drum and the seal. AHS sent a new company out. The tech told me he thought it was the shocks and the rubber band that goes around the drum. He told me that he would order parts and get back to me. He was very nice, but this was a month ago so I don’t know what happened. I called AHS back this week and the woman said she called them and left a message. Then I still heard nothing. I called back today and the woman said that they didn’t order parts.
I go online to submit my claim if the call wait is long, but if it’s short, then I’ll just wait for somebody. But when there’s obviously a problem, I always speak to somebody. A few months ago, we could never get through to them and we would wait hours upon hours on the phone. However, it seems they fixed that problem. I feel that it's better now. If I call now, it’s usually a couple of minutes wait. It’s nice that if something does break, you know you can get somebody on the phone and get somebody there the next day. I guess my only concern is that you can’t pick who is coming to your house. Like this last issue, it’s taking a month to remedy the situation and that’s not good.
We’ve been with them long enough that we’ve had some good and some bad experiences with some contractors. It would be nice if after we’ve had a good contractor come, we could say that that contractor should be called next. Overall, the biggest issue lately is sometimes, the problems aren’t getting fixed by staff that we’d like.

Our refrigerator shorted out so I called American Home Shield to put in a claim. The guy who came to check it out was really good. It took him a few days, however. He tried to order the wiring harness for that refrigerator but it was holding up. He couldn’t get it. So he came back and tried to hardwire it. That didn’t work either and he was afraid it would be a fire hazard. So he put in a request for a new one. AHS wanted a second opinion so we went another week waiting for a second opinion. But since we live in the middle of nowhere, they could not get anybody to come out for a second opinion. They finally decided to give us a new one. We were without almost a month but the new unit we got is working great.
We would not go without American Home Shield. And I was talking to my brother about it this weekend and he was really interested in taking it up. Other people we have talked to were also impressed because we only pay $100. We are really satisfied with American Home Shield, and we will definitely keep it. The ice maker in my freezer wasn’t working and the freezer wasn’t cold enough to keep food frozen. My dryer wasn’t working as well. I went online to American Home Shield's website to submit a ticket for those things and then they sent me an email. The claims process was fine but I had an issue with my washer and dryer. And I have a combo unit so if one thing is wrong, something else goes wrong with it, and there was no way the website could display an issue with a combo unit. So, there was no way for me to do a narrative to explain the situation and I had to wait until the AHS rep calls to ask the other issue on there. I put a ticket back in August and the company they sent came out September. The contractor was able to fix the freezer issue after coming out three times with ordering parts, ordering the wrong parts, and sending out somebody else.
And between September and December, the contractor came out four to five times for my dryer to figure out that they couldn't fix it and that I needed a new unit. That was by far the worst situation to go through. I wasn’t able to wash and dry my clothes until January when they replaced the unit. And then with that, I had to call one company to deliver and once they delivered, I had to set up another appointment with another company to set it up. So, that's three different companies I've dealt with American Home Shield and to me, if someone's delivering something, they should be able to hook it up. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield because being a homeowner, I hate coming out of the pocket to have to fix things with things being as expensive as it is. The overall experience with AHS was shady.

All the contractors we've had have been excellent. And the time it takes to have a contractor at home varies. Everything seemed to happen towards the weekend, like on a Friday, and it was not bad. Except if it happened on a Thursday, we won’t get anyone until Tuesday. We filed a claim for the washing machine. With American Home Shield it appears that everything is a matter of policy and following procedures regardless of the customer’s needs. We had to secure power to our hot water heater and drain the water out of it and then we turned in a service call with AHS. When I had not heard from anyone I called the contract company only to find out they were located two counties and two hours away. I was told by the contractor it would be two days before anyone could get to us. When I called AHS back and explained the situation to them and asked why they couldn't get a contractor in my area they were not concerned.
Everything was within “guidelines” and they would not make any attempt to locate a service contractor in my local area. I live in a county of over 780,000 and AHS has no one that they have a service contract with. That's false and they should be ashamed of their lack of customer service and inability to use reason over policy. This is an active service call.

I felt that I should not have to pay for a $125 service call fee for something their technician failed to do! Now they are trying to say I owe $250! I have not used their service and do not wish to do business with them anymore. There is no place in their (AHS) website that allows a customer to cancel a contract or dispute anything. When you call to speak to customer service agent I am on hold for over 20 minutes before I can speak to someone! I want the money returned to my account and my account closed!
The $125 that was deducted in November needs to be placed back in my account. I spoke with their representative in January and was told I would be refunded and I have not been refunded as of the writing of this complaint! Poor customer service and shoddy contractors. American Home Shield changed up their policies a little bit differently and they're better than they used to be. The communication part has improved and when I recently called them about our heater, their reps seemed like they were more intact. Before, there was lack of communication and they would transfer me from one person to another. They would verbally give me the phone number of the vendor that was going to come out and I had to call that vendor if they didn't call me. Now, immediately, I got a text message from the actual vendor. They let me know when their tech was going to be here and his name. I'm hoping that it's the same type of service we'd get if we need to use them again.
They may have also developed better relationships with vendors because the vendors they had before were terrible. One thing different now is that you pay the $75 to AHS prior to when the vendor comes out, instead of paying it to the vendor when he arrives. The tech who came out this time was awesome. He was very thorough and he explained everything into detail as to what was wrong and why we needed to have a new part in our heater. He was in full communication the whole time and our heater works great now. He was also the same person that came out the first time and the one that came back two days later. They were knowledgeable about the product, very courteous, and professional. They were very careful with and respectful of our furniture and carpeting and everything in the house. They were also clean and they left the house in the order that they found it. I was very impressed, and I would use them again in a heartbeat.
AHS replaced the water heater the same day, and that experience, in particular, was a little outstanding. We've had some difficulty with AHS in the past with timing, miscommunication, and no communication. We've had claims that were not addressed as quickly as we would have liked. But AHS is a company that we believe in, so we stick with the process and try to overlook the bad and keep all eyes on the good. AHS is a great value and a great way to have some peace of mind knowing that I'm not going to be faced with an enormous bill if an appliance goes out. When I called and ask about it, I could never be connected to anybody that could figure out what the problem was. I almost discontinued service with American Home Shield but after a while I just let the issue go.

I called American Home Shield and told them that the air conditioner stopped working. They sent a technician and that was when it was found out that some part of the motor and cables were burned up. That was what he had to order because they didn't have any in stock and he told me that he would call me which he did. And he came back out and completed the job and I haven't had any problem since. Everything was perfect. I was with American Home Shield for a long time now and I'm pleased with the service each time I called them. They took care of me. They have a really good service. And I like their response time the most. They are really quick.

The contractors who were sent out were real nice, especially David. However, I would like to get something to see what they have done since they told me one thing, but I don’t see a thing.

Last month, I filed a claim with AHS for my freezer and the first place that they assigned it to would not return any calls. I couldn’t even leave a message so, I contacted AHS and they immediately assigned it to another vendor who contacted me instantly. When they came out, their service was phenomenal and the freezer has been working perfectly since the repair. I filed another claim today for my washer that was broken and I assume they would be a follow up with me next week to confirm the appointment. I also hope they get the vendor to reach out to me by then. I submitted both of my claims online which was super easy to do and so far, I’ve been very pleased with AHS' service.
Hello, Kathleen. Sorry to hear that the first service contractor did not make contact with you as they should have. Glad we were able to get someone else out promptly. Please let us know if there is anything we can assist you with in the future.

I’ve had claims with AHS regarding a faucet, refrigerator and a stove vent. I submitted them on the web and overall, the experience has been okay. But the faucet has been a problem with the vendor, the repair shop that was sent out. They’ve been very non-responsive. I'm still waiting for a part and for them to finish that, and that started in September. The technician was out within about two or three days. They were polite. They just didn’t do their job.
They were able to fix the original problem, which was the inside of the faucet. It took four months for them to get the part, and with no follow up, with me not knowing what's going on, and with the faucet leaking. It took until December to get the part. They came out and fixed it and did it promptly. But then, they damaged the faucet. It got all scratched up in the repair, and I'm still waiting for a part. They never called me and I have no clue again as to what's going on. I have called in about 15 times on this to both the technicians and American Home Shield. But there’s no follow-up from them. It's very frustrating. But it was only the plumbing that I wasn't happy. AHS is worth checking into. I think on a new home, particularly one that's 60 years old, it's good to have the warranty for a couple of years, at least, because you never know what you're getting into when you buy a house.

I had a bathtub leak. I noticed it on the downstairs ceiling, which had a stain. I called AHS and their reps were very helpful and answered my questions. They sent someone out who knew his business. He checked out all the fixtures and he discovered the overflow drain was loose. He then tightened that up and he tested the tub to see if it leaked, and it didn't. Problem solved. I highly recommend AHS.

I am a new consumer of American Home Shield and I got a contract for each of my two homes. When I called to sign on, I got the information and the warranty started in November. I had 30 days to wait until I could call and I didn't need anything within those 30 days anyhow so that didn't bother me. But I was charged for the month of November even though I didn't have any claims and I could not have put in a claim with them. I don't think it was fair enough to pay for a contract if you're not allowed to get service on it.
Despite that, I recommended American Home Shield to one of my children. He checked online and he said it came out the best. When I had someone come to check my air conditioner, it was not an emergency but they said over the phone that the technician was going to come in two days so he came pretty quickly. He needed a new filter but he didn't have the filter to fit it and I didn't have that size of filter either so he couldn't get it going. But he checked it outside and inside and told me that I should get a new filter.

Last week, my heater went out and I called AHS. I'm 75 years old and it surprised that they would not supply me any plumbers that were available 24/7. That’s an important thing for long-term emergencies and people that can’t wait that long. I paid my $100 deductible with my Visa card and then they sent a plumber. He came here at the time he said he was going to come and he was good. He replaced the part in the heater and I encouraged him to come back in the spring to do a cleaning for me. But then I didn't have heat starting Friday until Tuesday, which was a really long time. It was nightmarish.
Also, I once had a claim for my water heater and the plumber that they sent out charged me $700 to take the old one out of the house. He told me I did not have access to the outside even though it went down with the help of one man when it was installed and nobody said a word about taking the other one out. It was atrocious to pay that much. I would not say I highly recommend American Home Shield, but their warranty works.

In the middle of a really bad below-freezing cold snap, I had my heat go out. I called American Home Shield and I had to wait on hold for ages. It was a terrible experience. The rep set me up with someone so I thought they would be coming out like they had put the 24-hour rush on it. This was probably 9 PM on a Thursday night. Then by 11 on Friday, I hadn’t heard from them, so I called them and they let me know that they saw contractors in my area but they didn’t see people in condo buildings. I had a long discussion that I was in a shared building and the unit was on the roof, but the rep didn’t believe me. So, they set me up with somebody else and I got the information on another contractor. The person didn’t call me, so I called them. They said they didn’t see people in my area either. This was Friday afternoon and we were about to hit the weekend.
I called back again and I've never had such a rude, belligerent person on the phone in my life. The lady kept saying that the 24-hour clock restarted and that AHS had 24 hours. I kept saying that I know that those were the procedures in front of her but these were mistakes on her end and these people are under contract with them. This went on and on and finally, I got to somebody in a unit that was very high up and he took care of me. He found somebody to come out and that person was wonderful. It was a contractor that doesn’t normally serve this area but they were great when they finally came. At that point, I've been without heat for about 48 hours and I'm pregnant so I was feeling sick and without heat. The technician came out and fixed my heater and then it turned out that they didn’t fix it all the way, so they had to come out again about a week and a half later when the heat went out.
The script that the AHS rep was reading to me was like something out of Saturday Night Live and they would respond with the worst thing that they could say in response at that point. When I called to say this contractor doesn’t serve my area, they said, "Okay, we understand that you don’t want the service because you don’t like them." It was the opposite of what I said and it just went on. I had to be hysterical before anyone would help me, and I don’t usually get hysterical. I work in public service and I'm used to dealing with characters, and this was out of control.
Another incident was when I had called AHS because I had problems with my appliances almost a year ago. My refrigerator wasn’t working and the contractor came. The technician thought it was fixed but it wasn’t, so I called them back and he came about three different times to fix it. And then I got an automatic notice from American Home Shield saying that it has been fixed. So I called back AHS to say that it wasn't and they said that the guy doesn’t work for a contract in my area anymore. I told them that the guy said a number of times that he has put in that this is broken and they said they were going to have to send somebody else out. Between the time my refrigerator broke and the time I got the offer from AHS, it was about eight months. And this involves the wait time when I call which is over an hour every time. It's just unbelievable.
So luckily, this time with the heat when I called in, the guy was able to help with the refrigerator too. I've got my offer on the refrigerator, but the unit doesn’t fit in the space I have so I'm hunting desperately to find a different fridge. But if it weren’t for this guy that I finally got after hours of complaining, I would be with Better Business Bureau. There were problems after problems. When this was all going on, I looked at the Better Business Bureau site and AHS has almost 10,000 complaints there which I wished I had seen before I signed up. Check the Better Business Bureau website because I am not alone in this.

I needed to get a replacement faucet and a garbage disposal, and they were both listed on the same ticket from American Home Shield. The tech came out and replaced the garbage disposal, but he did not replace the sink faucet and he said that he would take care of it later. I called the vendor back a couple of times and they kept saying that they were going to reschedule and he was going to come back out and do that. Finally, they cancelled the order. I went to American Home Shield and reopened the order and talked to the vendor again. They cancelled it again saying that American Home Shield had not approved it. I called American Home Shield again and got it reopened.
The vendor finally came out and replaced the faucet and said that they had problems with the previous person that was doing the work, so they fired them. They did excellent work during the first visit when they took care of the garbage disposal, and the final visit when they replaced the faucet was perfect. They did a really good job. It just took between December and March to complete that service call and I was not happy with that. I’m happy with the final results though.

The AHS representatives are friendly and efficient. And I’ve been lucky with all the contractors that AHS sent. They are professional and courteous. But AHS has been slow to respond when my air conditioner went out in the middle of the summer. I had eight house guests at that time and there was no air so it was inconvenient. It took me three weeks to get it repaired. Since the repair, the performance of the air con has been pretty good. AHS saved me because I moved into a house that has four air conditioners and within a year all four of them went out.

Our experience with American Home Shield last time was good, except for having to pay for the code changes. We had to have the water heater replaced and my husband submitted the claim over the phone. The contractor sent out was great and we love him. We have had a lot of trouble with our pipes in the past under the house and he took care of all those and didn't charge us extra. The first people that came out thought they were going to have to move the wall but he was able to get it in without doing that. It was a very good experience and he came out a couple of weeks later to check and make sure everything was okay. Our heater has been good since the repair and we've been very happy.
However, I would not want the guy that was out last year for the air conditioner and the refrigerator back again. He told us that our air conditioner was a piece of crap and that we shouldn't have bought it. And then when he came for the refrigerator and the freezer was on the bottom, I had to look at his butt crack the whole time. I also got billed for $100, which I had paid him. I sent copies of the canceled checks to American Home Shield but I didn't get another bill. Other than that, we've been very satisfied.

I was like, "Are you serious?" He flipped it, left it there for a minute and put it back. It was the same thing we had done but it worked when he did it. He was super nice too. He asked if there was anything that I needed worked on while he was here. So far, my experience with AHS has been good.

I had two problems with our toilet. One was the stoppage, and that was resolved. The other problem is a high-pitched squeal that occurs when the toilet is flushed, and that issue remains. I requested a return, and the plumber came back out and he told me that because the toilet isn’t technically broken and it operates fine, American Home Shield will not pay for any coverage for whatever it needed to resolve that problem. I’ve spoken with American Home Shield reps, and they’re a very difficult company to work with. They have preferred technicians that they like to assign because there’s a relationship in ownership between them and this other service company. But this other service company cancels calls and does not show up. It’s a constant battle almost every time to get somebody who would get out and do the job the first time.

When I purchased my home, it came with American Home Shield warranty. What people didn't tell me was that the warranty was not paid until closing calls take effect, which means, now I have to wait for some lawyer to send them the money. So, prior to AHS receiving their money, if I have any issues, they only honor one of those issues and I happened to have that situation occur. Day one, I moved into the house and something went wrong, so we called American Home Shield and they came out and fixed it. The technicians were also professional.
Day three, something else broke and I called AHS and they said that I already had my one issue and that until someone pays them, they can’t honor the contract. How did I have a contract if no one paid for it? So, that’s just a shady way of doing business. I had to come out of pocket with the $600 and they had to reimburse me which took them about 3 weeks. Also, I was double-billed once but they took care of that. AHS is worth it but be aware and hope that nothing goes wrong within the first three weeks because if it does, you’re going to pay $600.

I've been using American Home Shield since I bought my first house back in late '99. The realtor bought a policy with them as a housewarming gift. I enjoyed and liked the service. I've had it for almost 20 years now and I have a couple of different policies with them. I recently submitted a claim for one of my rental houses and another one for my residence. Both of them have been closed. At the residence, a piece of plumbing in my basement started leaking on the floor. I submitted an online claim and monitored them on my phone.
The first part of the claim was done at the beginning of November or end of October, but it was after New Year before they finally came and fixed it. The drain in my basement broke before Thanksgiving holidays. The first technician showed up within 48 hours and they have been great. I've got nothing but good things to say about them. However, AHS wanted a second opinion, but they sent a request to somebody who was on a Christmas vacation. For two weeks, the drain sat there waiting for him to show up. I finally found out the name of the company they were going to use so I called them myself. The answering machine said that they won't be back until after the New Year. If AHS had bothered to call their answering machine, they would have known they were not in the office and that it was closed for two weeks.
Also, I just had a washing machine repaired, which seemed to take a month. When they were here about five months ago working on the same issue, it went on for almost eight weeks. We had to order a part, but they wouldn't let me schedule the final repair until I had the part on hand and they don't schedule appointments for at least two weeks. In the last six months, it has been out of commission for half the time. Fortunately, I have a spare washing machine in my basement and I was able to do the laundry.
The plumbers and the electricians they send out are really good folks around here. One of the appliance technicians has a rough demeanor about him, but I got along with him all right because I'm about the same way. However, over the last couple of years, their customer service seems to have really tapered off. It has gotten to be where the wait times are getting longer and longer before the technicians show up and make initial contact or get the repair done.
I used to find that having the policy was incredibly valuable. However, I don't feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for anymore because of the downtime. With plumbing and electrical, they usually get somebody out pretty quickly. And the technicians are ready to fix the issue, but then they have to go up to their car and spend an hour on the phone to get authorization. By the time that is done, the block of time he is allowed to work with me that day is used up and I'm going to have to reschedule because he has a timetable too.
I used to recommend American Home Shield to everybody, however, I can't, in good conscience, recommend them to anybody anymore. Right now, I'm faced with the decision to self-insure and set money every month and handle the problem myself. Although I'd continue to keep the three policies that I have, but I'm getting to the point where I'm probably going to stop in doing policies as they come up near their expiration.
I would like to thank you for your patronage to AHS for over the past 20 years. I understand that you have had a few recent claims that have been delayed or even allowed you to experience hour-long hold times. I would be glad to speak with you and get them resolved.

I had an underground leak, and there was water around the tub area. It happened on New Year’s and I didn’t have water for 10 days. I submitted the claim online and I went through the menu which was kind of a pain in the butt. And once it went through, it took about two days for somebody to come here. The company that was sent out was really good to work with, but there was nothing they could do about it. The leak wasn't covered by American Home Shield, and they told me how much it was going to be. I had to do a cash out which was way more than what they would have covered. There was no way that $1,000 was enough to pay for that.
But the guys at American Home Shield have been pretty good, and I had a few more claims with them. The warranty is very important especially if you don’t have the money out of pocket right away. The only problem is the cap because I don’t remember anyone going over that with me. It’s really important that customers know that an AC unit is a heck of a lot more than $1,000. Because it was so much money, and I had to shop around to get the best price. Even if you go with American Home Shield, if you don’t go and check around whatever else you can get, you’re stuck.

My dishwasher had an error code. I called American Home Shield and the rep was professional. She got the right person to come and look at the dishwasher. She met my needs. The contractor contacted within three days but the problem was, I was out of town. I don’t think it’s fair to punish them. It was about two weeks when they got there, but that was my fault, not theirs. When the contractor came, he told me what he was going to do. He went through the error code, which is a Bosch dishwasher. I looked at the air code and it was a drain leak. He told me that he was going to order the parts and it’s got to be pulled out and turned upside down.
And then, when the parts came in and again, I was gone away. I had to deal with some family illnesses. When they came back, they pulled the dishwasher unto the back of the shop which was the better thing to do. So I didn’t have that mess in my house. After the repair, everything has been perfect. It was a great experience. It relieved the pressure of me having a $100 bill. I knew I had to pay my visit and they took care of it so I’ve been very pleased. American Home Shield saved me from finding someone that works on a special type of home appliance. It also saved me from worrying about how much it is going to cost, if they are going to come or if they are going to really do what they say they’re going to do. I feel like with their backing, that makes it all happen very nicely. They’re not trying to rip you off.
I’ll just keep on being with American Home Shield and I would tell others to definitely do it. If something breaks down, it’s a one call and you always get the correct person out to fix it. And they’re very cordial. I don’t feel like they’re coming out tell me something’s broken when it’s really not broken. I feel like they’re fixing it like it should be fixed.

He came in when he said he was going to be here. It took him one time to fix it. He did it right so that was great. The faucets are working perfectly since the repair. We can use restrooms now. We were down to just using the master bathroom because they were leaking so much that I had to turn the water off in the sinks so taking care of this has made a big difference.
Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was an easy process. I just had to do it online which I did and it was done. But then I had to call back because they would only let me do one item online and the rep I talked to added a few more of the items to the claim. My AC unit was working for cooling but not for heating. Then I went online to submit the claim to American Home Shield. They have a very user-friendly website. AHS sent great contractors. They were very knowledgeable and very helpful. They explained what was wrong and what they were trying to do. They were very communicative and kept me posted. They called me to say that they didn’t have the part yet. But I waited two weeks before they were able to come back to get a part where normally if I were to pay for it, they would just go pick up the part. I understand it’s a warranty but it’s just not very timely.
I spent a good three weeks in the cold before the heating was fixed so that’s the downside of the warranty. And they spent a lot of money trying to fix something that probably should be replaced. The company that came said they would have replaced the unit because the part that is missing is already a $600 part. And they would rather pay the $600 for the part rather than avoid it to be a problem later.
The AC part was fixed but the heat didn’t work and they spent another bunch of money. So if I kept adding up, was it really worth fixing versus not. I didn’t care because it's working and if it doesn’t work I'm going to call AHS again. AHS is a pretty good deal and I would recommend them. I've had it for years in different properties and the downside is the wait. In addition, I would love the ability to pick the same contractor that came for a previous job.
Contractors that have worked with AHS in the past don’t like working with American Home Shield again in general. It gets them very frustrated. They really want to help sometimes and they seemed not to be able to because they have to do whatever it is they are told. But overall if you have patience, because it's not quick, eventually things will get fixed.

We were going to get some vegetables out and they were soft. That was when I called American Home Shield. Everything went well when submitting the claim, as far as I’m concerned, and it was a couple of days before we called the tech. The guy that was here and fixed the refrigerator told me to put a thermometer in the freezer and make sure it was between 0 and 10. And I had an old thermometer here out on the porch so I put it in there. It has been reading between 20 and 26, but I don’t know if it’s because it's old. The tech was supposed to come back in five days or a week and check to see if the Freon is still leaking. But everything that he’s done and American Home Shield has done, has been fine.
After the repair, the only thing I got in there was one frozen dinner and it was supposed to be frozen. But those little long popsicles in a plastic thing that we freeze for the little kids were not frozen. We had to throw the food away, but it’s no big deal. So, the refrigerator is not working still and I suppose I’d have to call them again in town. When my water heater was leaking, I called American Home Shield to file a claim for it and have it replaced. It was sitting next to the boiler, so at that point I realized that my boiler was also leaking and I recently filed a claim for that too. I would recommend American Home Shield. My experience with American Home Shield has never been good with anything they have ever done for me. For six years, I've been dealing with them for the air conditioning unit that was installed when the house was new in 2004. The average life of an AC is five to seven years. When I bought the house in 2007, I knew that I was halfway through the life of the AC unit. I bought the American Home Shield warranty. And for the past five years, AHS has been patching a 14-year old system. The system has obviously reached the end of its life. But they just want to fix and try to repair it. Every start of summer, the AC doesn't work. And every time it leaks, a company shows up, patches it, then charges me $1,500 for Freon. It's been five years in a row. I keep telling AHS that with the amount of money spent on repair techs who had to keep coming here plus the Freon, I could have paid for a new system.
I also had a washer that was almost 12 years old and it stopped washing one day. I called American Home Shield and they called to get a repair tech out here who diagnosed the problem. It took a week to get the repair tech out here. It then took another week to get the parts and then another week for him to show up to say that the washer needs to be replaced. So, they ordered me a new washer which took a week to get. Then they had New England Appliance Express deliver and install the washer but they didn't install it properly. There was a little rubber washer inside the hose that seals the faucet joint where it connects to the water. They got it in sideways, so water was leaking from there. It leaked all over the floor, all over the place on the second floor and in the ceiling to my kitchen on the first floor. When I called American Home Shield, they told me that it was not their problem and that I needed to talk to the people who put it in.
Another time, my water heater started leaking and a guy showed up who told me that I needed a new water heater. It turns out that they'll get the water heater but they don't pay to install it. The plumber said that I needed an expansion tank but I happen to know that I already have an expansion tank that was not leaking. They tried to make their money back on the other end on the installation. AHS does not use quality plumbing or electric companies. This has been an extreme nightmare. My experience with AHS has been terrible. When an appliance is over 10 years old, it is stupid to repair it. At 10 years, you just draw a line and replace it.

I had a heater technician come out and take a look at some issues I was having. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. It was was very simple and I was contacted within a few minutes of submitting it on the actual company. They were out the same day so it was a very speedy response time. The contractor arrived when he was supposed to, communication was good, he let me know exactly what was going on, what he was doing and it was just an overall good experience. Since the repair, my heater has improved.
Hi, Evan. That is great news! There is nothing like your HVAC system working effectively and efficiently.

I've submitted many claims to American Home Shield. One was for my dishwasher. Then there was an issue with the AC and the plumbing. When I called Home Shield, I had someone come out. The AC guy told me that it was a plumbing issue and then the plumbing guy said it had to do with the AC. Meanwhile, it caused a leak in my home and I had to hire an independent person to figure it out. I have submitted claims both online and via phone. But the reason we tried to do it online was that it has been almost impossible by phone because they have been really busy. Their contractors, in general, were not as knowledgeable as I would like them to be. Maybe in their mind, they fixed the problem but they didn't.
I understand your concerns with the air conditioner and plumbing work orders that you placed. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

I had a couple of issues that led me to file a claim to American Home Shield. The chain was broken so my plumbing wasn’t flushing right. Also, hair was clogged in the shower. I submitted the claim online then the AHS rep called and set up the appointment. My experience was fine. The tech already told my husband what to do if hair gets clogged in from the girl’s shower. I've had AHS for years and it’s good when I have to use it. But the prices keep going up and there are other companies that are comparable to it. I have used AHS maybe once or twice a year and it's a lot of money just to be paying for that amount, so I'm considering another company whose service fee to come out and yearly plan are not as high.
Hi, Joyce. We appreciate your patronage and would hate to see you go to a competitor. I do understand your reasonings. Please make sure that your coverage remains the same when comparing costs.

I’m pretty good with AHS and I have recommended them to other people. I make my claims to AHS online because I have to wait for hours to get somebody on the phone. The online process is pretty easy. I have the app and I just request service and it goes through right away. But when I had a claim for my furnace where the inverter went out, I had some issues with the furnace guys. A guy broke the piece as he was putting it in and they had to reorder it and it was another week before I got it. But then something else was wrong after they finally put it in so it was two weeks before it was finally done. But despite the issues, they were very nice.

I've been trying to get the icemaker in my fridge fixed since October. AHS then sent out another company for a second opinion and the young guy who came out was really friendly. There was no animosity. Then, all of a sudden, I called in and the original company indicated that that company won't be able to do the job because they had a bad attitude. I thought, “What?” I thought I’d file a complaint with AHS verbally about that. It was ridiculous. For two months I haven't called back. I wanted to wait to see if my icemaker was working but it was still not. Only a little bit of ice comes in. I'm like, “Do I want to wait 30 minutes or 40 minutes to get through?” I'm retired, but it’s a waste of my time. So, I’m thinking about looking for another company.
My biggest problem with it now is that they have no way on the website that I can do a recall. You can file a claim there, but not a re-claim. I used to be able to call and just get through within five minutes but now I'm waiting 30 minutes just to get through. And that’s every call that I make to them to file a claim. It used to be quick, easy, and it would beat time for me to go to Yellow Pages and find somebody. Before, I've recommended AHS to people because they were very convenient. I've been working with them for 22 years now. However, they’ve continued to change. I wouldn’t recommend them at all right now.
Before, it was a quick service and it saved me time. They brokered with somebody else to come out and get the call to do the job. That was great. They took all the work off of me. But now, it's 40 minutes to get through. Are they trying to make everybody go to the website now? Is that a new procedure? It’s gotten to a point where there are people like me, who don't use computers as much and we're like in a box. Also, I don't mind things going up but they've sent contractors who act like I'm supposed to do them a service. I’m saying, “Wait, wait, wait. Hold it. You’re coming out to fix this. You’re not coming out to start getting on me for something that’s mechanical.” “Well, you needed this.” I said, “You’re ridiculous.”

My microwave oven’s door handle got trimmed off and we had an American Home Shield contractor come out to look at it. I told them that when you pull the handle, the whole handle was coming out. There was a crack in the door. But they said it was just the trims and it was only cosmetics. Within a month, we found out that the trim was actually the structure that was holding the handle on. We had to call again and I explained the problem with AHS. They said that they can send the same technician back out. But I don’t want the same guy and would have liked to have a different contractor to come out and look at it and do the evaluation.
I paid another $75 for somebody to come out once it was totally ripped off because it wasn’t going to hold as we open or close it. Then he ordered the door and it took a week and a half to get it. And he said we could just grab the door by the bottom and pull it off and push it to close and it would work fine until the new door comes in. He treated us like we were idiots. I have an elderly mother and children so we didn’t use the microwave. When they got us a new door, they brought it in and it took them five minutes to install it but then, they left the box with the broken lid sitting on the counter.
Other than that, I really like AHS. They do a wonderful job. There was a time when there was a leak in the tub upstairs. The guy who came out was completely professional. He cleaned up after himself and took the parts that were broken away with him. I asked him a couple of questions and he was more than polite to answer them. I wish AHS would cover heat pump stuff. My heat pump works fine. But the screen on it went out and I can't get another one because it’s an out of date model. So I have a pool without a heater and the only way to fix it is to buy a $5000 replacement and it wasn’t covered by insurance.

I submitted a claim for the lint grill on my dryer. I bought the replacement online but since the machine was older I needed to replace the full kit, not just one portion of it because it didn’t fit in flush. I was able to replace that and that was fine. Then I had them service my washer and the drum which was eventually replaced. However, there was a back and forth that happened, where the technician said that it was going to be replaced but AHS was like, "No, we’re not going to replace it. The technician didn’t give a more descriptive reasoning.”
I told them that the machine was shaking and that the drum was warped and that it needs to be replaced. The individual I was talking to was going back and forth with his manager on the other line and I was like, “I pay every month, I don’t understand why I have to wait till the machine break again to have this item replaced when you know it needs to be replaced.” But finally it was resolved. I didn't look at it as a negative, but I shouldn’t have to have that dialogue. But the contractors they've sent me have been professional and have done the job. I'm still satisfied with AHS and I always let people know that I have the service. I would also recommend them.

We have a high-efficiency furnace and it had a really strong gas odor outside. I like to talk to people so I filed a claim to American Home Shield by phone. My interaction with the rep was very good. And I’ve had good luck with most of the contractors except for the one whom we had come out for a hot water tank leak. He said it wasn’t leaking so he couldn’t do anything, but I still fill a cup up about once a week. This time, for the furnace, somebody came and he took the igniter out, cleaned it, put it back in and took care of the problem. He showed me how to do it, and it was easy. Now the furnace works like before it was fixed. It just had a bad odor outside because it wasn’t burning all the fuel up. American Home Shield's service is too expensive but it’s a lot cheaper to pay $75 than several $100 or a $1000. I recommended them to a friend and they got it. American Home Shield takes good care of you and everything’s covered. All you have to do is call.

My experience with American Home Shield has been frustrating. I had a fun conversation with another lady earlier and got cut off. Part of the problem is, when I called in for a service call to ask questions. It is usually a 30 to 45 minutes hold period. Because of that, one of my very first service call for a plumber, I did online because I was told it was easier. I have had many leaky valves, and there haven't been options online for listing multiple valves or faucets that are leaking. I did not know any better at the time so I selected faucet and whatever other plumbing issues I had.
Once the plumber came out, he said that he is only fixing one faucet, one toilet and the water heater. I had multiple faucets leaking so I had to live with leaky faucets until I have to call in another service call and get another plumber out. He had told me at that time that I needed to call AHS to add on multiple faucets and that he would not do it. So, I tried to call and I was on hold for about 45 minutes and by that time, he was done and had left.
It was not clear online that I could not select multiple of the same item. I was told later that I have to call in to do that. Nowhere on the website that it says that when I was setting up for a service call. I was trying to make the argument that it was unfair because I have to pay that service call fee twice when it all should have been fixed in one visit. I had called them multiple times and wasted so much time being on hold and trying to get a hold of a manager to explain and they can’t seem to understand what the main issue is. Their online forms are not even right. They need to fix those forms and make it clear that we need to call it as a multiple.
Also, when I talked to somebody online and complained about the whole time, they said, “Wow! We have an online chat trouper.” There has just been more than a handful of times I’ve tried to use that online chat but nobody was available. I’ve dealt with a home warranty company before and never had this kind of frustration, especially the long hold times.
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have endured as well as the plumbing service requests that you have placed to have your faucets, water heater, and toilet repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your concerns.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield recently when my fridge wasn’t working and its temperature was hot. The technician changed some little part, which might have been the thermostat. The contractor sent out by American Home Shield was awesome. He came out and he brought somebody. This is the second time that he has come out to fix my fridge. I had made a claim a few different times for my fridge, but I kept cancelling it because my fridge would get warm and then it would get cold again. I told the contractor that I couldn't have the techs come out when my fridge was working or it would just be a waste of money since they would say that it was working and they wouldn’t do anything.
The contractor explained to me that the problem was because of some wire that was getting touched so that my fridge would come back on and then it would go back off. He fixed my fridge but he said that I couldn't use it until I had thawed it out completely. So, I did that for 24 hours and my fridge has been fine ever since. The contractors are very well-qualified.
The dishwasher has been perfect since the repair. The technicians did exactly what they said they were going to do and they showed up when they said they were going to. I've been very pleased with everyone. I only had one bad experience with a plumber, and then when I had another issue with the plumbing, I just requested the same guy that was out here once before and that was fine. I had a valve problem in the showers and I called American Home Shield to file a claim. They assigned a company to me and the company's rep called. My interaction with the contractor was fine. I didn't have the valve so they needed to have somebody come back again a few days later after the valve arrived. The valve was not stored locally so I ordered the valve from Kohler. It was under a lifetime guarantee and we had to wait for Kohler to ship it. Everything is fine now, however, there was a problem with the billing because they had to transfer the vendor to another person. I paid the $75 fee upfront and they were charging me $75 again so I had to call them. They said it would take about 14 business days for them to fix that problem. In the meantime, I got email and mail reminders that I was overdue and nobody likes to get overdue billing notices.
That matter is still pending and I’m not happy about that because these are the kinds of things that if they don’t fix it, soon, it’s going into collections and be a big mess. I like to keep everything clean but their billing is not fast enough to fix their own problems. It seems like I have to put in a lot of work for something that’s their problem. They need to have better internal control over cases where they transfer the vendor and the customer already paid one vendor, so they don’t bother the customers. Other than that, they’re as good as the next organization that does this kind of thing.

Six months of dealing with AHS for a simple plumbing issue has been a nightmare. Wait times of well over an hour, plumbers who don't show, and complete avoidance of any responsibility by AHS. First plumber came, said they needed a part and would be in touch. They report to AHS that the issue was fixed and promptly disappeared. After some Twitter magic, AHS finally called out a second plumber (months later). He called and scheduled an appointment, didn't show. We called and said he missed, he told us we made it up but would come out the next day. Didn't show. Rinse and repeat. Final time I call, he calls me a liar and starts yelling that he doesn't have to put up with this. Of course, he reported that the problem was fixed to AHS, so I'm sure he got paid.
It now occurs to AHS to refund our trade call deductible, and we think we're on target. AHS never apologized for the second plumber, but I'm sure their lawyers are on top of those things. Third time wasn't a charm, as he told us there was a manufacturer's defect or just that the toilet was old. Fine. He also told us he wouldn't come out to our neighborhood again because parking is "bad", even though we have a garage he could use. That should have been the sign, as AHS claims it was because of "force" on the tank or misuse. Plumber confirmed to me on the phone he said it was because of a defect but that AHS doesn't have an option that won't place that blame on us.
After all the trouble we've had and being able to get the BARE minimum of help, it has become clear that AHS will take no responsibility and rejects claims out of hand - if this were a regulated industry, it would be the equivalent of fraud. BBB able to actually get someone to respond but no responsibility or assistance was offered AHS. Twitter was more useful than their responses to BBB, but they picked the plumber that gave the answer they wanted (after telling us the toilet was fine because the first two plumbers said it was fixed... Even if they both disappeared). Find a different warranty company... Or just save the monthly cost and pay a good contractor directly.
I understand your concerns with the denied service claim to have your toilets repaired through AHS. I would be glad to speak with you in an effort to resolve your experience and refund your deductible.

My water heater was leaking. I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor. The contractor came but the heater started leaking again. I contacted the contractor and he said that I had to call AHS again. But I couldn't call AHS directly. I had to be on hold for freaking ever. I was calling AHS in the car because I happened to be traveling. I was on hold for 45 minutes waiting for them when something fell on my phone and hung up. So I was on hold for another hour when they answered. I was one day away from that water heater warranty being voided. If I waited one more day, it still would have been covered but it would not have been covered if I had waited longer than that.
AHS sent another guy out from the same contractor. He fixed the water heater. He said there was just a little piece of something stuck and that he got it out. He said that it is not going to leak anymore. But within two days, it was leaking again. It was leaking bigger than it was ever leaking the first time. So I called AHS again knowing I was going to have to be on hold forever. They sent the contractor out again who sent somebody else. He worked on the heater as well but he said that he could not fix it because it stated in my contract that AHS does not fix things if the water pressure is above a certain point. I looked at my contract and it does say that if the water pressure is over 100 psi, AHS won't repair anything, which is ridiculous.
The guy offered $2,000 to have the water pressure thing fixed. I am a single mom and I did not have $2,000. So in the meantime, water was pouring out of my water heater. Thank God that the leak was going outside and not inside my house. I work for the school district and the maintenance man that works at school said that I needed to call the city because the city can adjust my water pressure. I contacted the city and the city plumber came out. But he said that he could not just lower my water pressure. He said that my water pressure is the same as my neighbor’s water pressure and that most people do not want their water pressure reduced.
AHS sent a letter which said that because my contract says that they are not going to fix if the water pressure is above 100 psi, they are not fixing my claim. They just looked for things not to cover. Two years ago, I had a freeze and my outdoor water faucet froze. It broke and it was leaking, so I called AHS. I paid $75 and the plumber came. The plumber said that AHS is not going to pay for it because the faucet is not coming out of my house. It was right next to my house and it came out of the ground but it was not coming out of the bricks. So I lost $75 there. Also, I emailed them twice but they never responded. Now, I tell my friends not to get AHS. They had fixed some things for me. However, even when things were fixed, I still had to pay an astronomical amount to the person who did the fix. AHS did not make that clear when I purchased this plan.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My experience with American Home Shield has been awesome. When I submit a claim, they gave me follow-ups. The last claim I filed was for a heater which wasn’t working. I usually submit my claim over the internet. They’re quick to respond anytime I contact them. They gave me the contact information of who was contacting me or who the vendor was. They’re always professional. But it’s their selected vendors that I had an issue with. I submitted the claim January 22st and the first contractor came on the 23rd. It was in the cold of winter at 12 and 9-degree weather in St. Louis. The first contractor checked on the heater and did whatever they had to do. They said they had to replace it. I had to get them to stay there, so nobody had to leave work. I asked them the turnaround and they submitted whatever the work order into American Home Shield.
They had 24 hours to do it. That whole week, they had to submit anything to American Home Shield. I contacted AHS four different times through that week. And while I was on the phone with them, they were contacting the vendor. But the vendor wasn’t responding to them. They sent an email to whoever held the contract and still didn’t get a response. The contractor didn’t get anything to tell American Home Shield. The following Monday, after the weekend, it was our coldest. Single digit, no heat because I had to turn the heater off because of the gas. Then, I contacted American Home Shield and they put me on the phone again, tried to contact the contractor again but they still haven’t received any paperwork from the vendor.
At that time, I was speaking with the lady from American Home Shield, and I said, “Why do we have to use this vendor? They’re not responding to you. They don’t respond to me because I was leaving them messages.” They didn’t work over the weekend and it was ridiculous. The first company called Blast Mechanical was horrible. When I first contacted American Home Shield back Wednesday, they haven’t received the paperwork. Every time I call AHS, I don’t get the same person so I always have somebody different that I had to go through and tell them. The lady sent the email to the vendor on a Friday. She said the vendor has to respond once she sent whatever email she was sending.
Initially, AHS has to give the vendor allotted time and I allowed it which I thought they would have everything to AHS before Friday since they were here Tuesday but that didn’t happen. By the time Monday came, the next person I talked to said it was unacceptable and that they will send my service to another vendor. It was my first experience with a vendor that was incompetent and they were such a small vendor. They have maybe four people and a person that works in the office to answer the phone. Outside of that, I call all day and they don’t answer. I leave messages, they don’t call back. It’s not a good look, as far as American Home Shield using them as a vendor.
So, AHS ended up assigning it to another vendor. It was the vendor that they normally used in the past that I was accustomed to. The second vendor came out and didn’t need to replace anything. By the time they left, there was heat in the house. AHS should pay full attention to what their customers are paying them for their contracts or saying about a type of vendors. If they were having a negative experience with these vendors, it means a lot to know that they understand. It’s like when we get sorry employees in a government I’m working. We got people that they own their job and when we recognize sorry employees, either we get them up to speed or we get rid of them. I've recommended AHS to many people and I still recommend them but AHS needs to be more selective and a bit more stringent with their vendors.

I had a heating claim and there was one company that American Home Shield kept sending back out. I ended up with a $345 electric bill for two months in a row. Then, they sent the same company back for the third time to fix the heating unit. And when my heater started, my smoke detector went off. Apparently, the service guy wired it wrong. It wasn't nice. So I called and complained and AHS wouldn't send a different technician out. I don't want that company to come back out here. Their customer service plainly sucked. They don't know anything and can't help. I sent an e-mail to the owner of the company and someone called me. She was really good and called somebody. A guy then came out and he went through the thing with a fine-toothed comb. And he told me the back wiring was wired wrong. And ever since, I have had no problem with the heater.
I had another claim for my washing machine where AHS sent out people four times as well. The first time the guy came out, he ordered parts for the washing machine such as a motherboard. However, I had to reschedule the appointment for him to put them in. He was a nice guy but he was a terrible repair person. All he did was worry about his other appointment. He gave his phone number and said, "If it doesn’t spin, I can’t wait. I got to go because this guy is texting me. Call me and let me know if it spins or not.” So, I did. But I didn’t hear another word from him. Another guy came out, and he was really very thorough. I like him. He got a bit confused so he made a few phone calls. But he came to find out the issue was the water coming in from the back of the machine through this little thing.
AHS doesn't do Saturdays in my area. I was at home all Saturday afternoon waiting for the service guy and I called the customer service to find out what was going on. All the girls kept telling me, "They should be there shortly. They’ll have to call you.” And finally, the fourth girl I spoke to that day said they don’t work on Saturday at all. Their customer service needs to do better. They need to communicate with each other on what's going on. I was not happy. I’m paying AHS every single month on time. As a matter of fact, I let them take straight out of my check. I don’t need to be stressed like this.
I understand your concerns with the heating and washer machine claims that you placed and the delay in service to speak with a contractor. I would be glad to follow up with you and help get the issues resolved.

We really appreciate how American Home Shield had handled our claims in the past. My experience with them and the online application has been very good, and the response time was pretty good as well. But the online system won't handle exceptions and sometimes I have trouble when I try to check or change a claim. Then I would have to call in and sit in line for an hour before a real live person comes up. They really need more techs handling calls coming in.
Also, a couple of years ago, we had some plumbing issues and the person they sent to fix the drain in our sink did more to avoid the work than to do the work. In fact, he accused me of putting chemicals down the drain. I did, but I was just trying to clean it myself. He told me he couldn't go in there if there are chemicals. He was a plumber and yet he couldn't fix it. I ended up calling a commercially-trained guy who came in and fixed it. Then a couple of times later, I had a stuck drain and they kept wanting to send the same plumber and his company out. I told AHS that I didn't want them and I told them the firm that I wanted, which had always done a great job for me. AHS said they couldn't guarantee that they could send that one and I would have to take whoever they send. I didn’t agree with that.
If I don’t want one of their contractors in my house because I don't trust him then they should be able to give me a new contractor. They've responded to my feedback and American Home Shield honored my request and sent a different plumber out. All was taken care of. By and large, my experiences with AHS have been very positive and I'm very pleased with the warranty.

I called my plumbing company for the drain in my tub and my toilet and they said I had to call American Home Shield. I called AHS, set up the appointment, I waited about an hour and called the company back. The claims rep was very professional as well as the contractor. The contractor went in, fixed it and explained to me what he did. I've had American Home Shield for years and I love them. It's just invaluable. It's well worth the money because it's insurance. When the repairs come, it's not a surprise. With AHS, I could avoid having to get a repair person that may try to tell me things I don't need. Also, there is an out of pocket maximum that I'm going to have to pay for the repair.
Hi, Deborah. We are so pleased to know that you have enjoyed our services. Thank you for letting us know how much we mean to you.

The heat pump would start up, stop then it would just go right off. At first, I thought it was because it got extremely cold in North Carolina. Then, I noticed that it was on a continuous basis so I contacted American Home Shield over the phone to describe what was going on. The rep I spoke with was upfront and asked me questions like what was going on and how long the process has been going when I first noticed it. They also asked my availability as far as time frame for people to come out.
Then, they set up an appointment and provided me with different options whether I wanted the AM or midday sessions. They were very informative of details and what would happen in the process. Also, they told me that they would bill me later. Then they went on to tell me when the person would come out and what agency would be coming out to take a look at my heat pump. They advised me that the technician would give me a call and he did. AHS customer service was great and gave excellent service. Everything they told me happened.
AHS sent out an amazing contractor, too. He was very personable, friendly and very on point. I had dogs but he was okay with that and just walked me through the process, told me what was going on. He did what he was supposed to do and did an excellent job. Since I work from home plus I have two dogs, the repair made a major impact on my day-to-day operations. And it was right before we got that real cold front where it dropped to nine degrees. Having American Home Shield is a necessity and it's something that people should have. I tell people that it’s a valuable thing and although it was my first time to use it, it was great to have it. I love the security.
Hello, Felicia. I am so happy to hear that the technician was able to repair your unit prior to that cold front came through. Thank you for your patronage.

If you’re an adult in this world who owns a car or a house, you should have some type of insurance. A fuse was blown in our AC and it wouldn’t work. We called American Home Shield to submit the claim and our interaction with the rep was good, as always. The contractor who came was very professional, did the right work and got it fixed. The timeliness of the whole claims process was fine based on the service that they're doing. If I was paying for it out of my own pocket, I would suspect that I'm still at the mercy of scheduling the contractor. I’ve already turned about three people to American Home Shield.

A1 Plumbing was good and the plumbing guy who came in was super friendly and helpful. He also explained things to me and took the time. And when I wasn’t sure one thing was working right, I contacted American Home Shield. I requested the same guy and he came out and he showed me that the sun pump problem was the way it was built. The sun well was like a shallow grave and was a three-inch hole, and the sun pump needed to be deeper in the water. He explained it all to me and that wasn’t something that was covered under the warranty because it's pre-existing. But I was able to move on that as the contractors came and got my sun pump working, and now my basement is not flooded. That's cheers to the plumber.
I'm still dealing with an appliance problem. The first guy that came out was very arrogant and it was totally confusing after that because he told me that he knew what the problem was although he didn’t even run the washer. After three weeks, the company called me and said that they had the parts for my dryer. I asked about the washer that also needed something and I was told that it was referred to an electrician and that there was a problem with the socket. I wondered how the contractor knew it when he never even tried to plug it in. He looked at the socket and he said something but he indicated that he was ordering parts and they would be fixed. Then I had to go back to American Home Shield after that and then I called the appliance people.
A nice kid came out the next time and fixed everything. He said it was all fixed but when I ran the washer, it still made this horrendous noise so I tried to call American Home Shield. But it's hard to reach somebody on the phone sometimes and other times, it says there's an hour and a half wait. I didn’t want to pay for another service call when the original problem hasn’t been fixed but I found a way online. And then the appliance people called me. The first guy came back out but he was a lot nicer, friendlier and cordial this time.
He said that the original problem that he diagnosed was the cause of another problem and said that I might need a total replacement. He was going to order parts but maybe I should talk to American Home Shield. I didn’t know what he meant and I haven’t talked to American Home Shield because I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to tell them. They got the parts for the dryer and the washer for the first diagnosis and I’m now waiting to hear from them for the parts of the most recent diagnosis to come in.
I've been dealing with American Home Shield. I recently moved into this house and when we did the home inspection, a lot of stuff worked and then suddenly, when I moved in, a lot of stuff didn’t work. I had a whole bunch of electrical outlets and lights that weren’t working although it had worked on our walk-through a month before. They had an electrician come out and he looked around and said that these are all pre-existing. Someone reached out to me from American Home Shield and tried to talk about some of the specifics and I asked, "What pre-existing? How do they know it's pre-existing?" They asked if I did the inspection and I said yes but it wasn’t noted that these were problems.
One problem was noted for a mis-wired garbage disposal. I wasn’t aware that all these problems happened but they offered me a chance to find out piece by piece what I could get done and what they would and what they wouldn't. After a brief discussion, I knew that I wanted to have some electrical work done in the house so I said I needed to have the box locked out. The box was illegally rigged up, which I knew from the home inspection, and somebody had wired multiple things to the same circuit.
I was satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield but I would love to call at any point and be dealt with because I'm not super literate on the computer. It was confusing to me and I gradually learned the website. I wish they had an option to leave a message and calling back like some other people I deal with. I would have appreciated that because then I'll know that they'll just call me back, other than keep calling.

I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield, however, my most recent experience wasn't as good as I had in the past. I've been with them for 20 years. And recently, I called regarding some issues that I was having. It took a long time to finally get somebody to come here. And when I did, the person said the service was not covered and they have to send somebody for a second opinion which took even longer. I normally file my claims online and it's been fairly easy to use their website, but it needs to have more choices when it comes to the things that one needs to get fixed. I'm not really liking the system recently, but I'd still suggest my friends to try American Home Shield out.
Hi, Yolene. We are currently working to update our website. There have been other requests for more options online. Thank you for your recommendations.

The motor that attaches to the pump of my tub was shut and the claims process for it with American Home Shield was done a lot faster than I thought it was going to be. I filed the claim online and their website was really easy to use. The contractor came out, took a look at it and figured out that he couldn't fix it. He then put in a request which came back almost immediately approved. He went and picked up what he needed, came back and fixed it. It was 48 hours from the time I put in the claim until it was fixed and now it works great. I've been in there for about six times already.
We had AHS back when we had a house in Minnesota and that's why we went back with them. However, I had a bad experience with the guy who came out to fix the ice maker. It didn't go well and that ridiculously went on for months. AHS would schedule people who didn't show up when they were scheduled to. And when the contractors did show up, they couldn't fix it because they didn't have the parts they needed. They sent this kid out once without the part and he had no idea. It was a complete waste of time having to take off work to cover that. They had to come out five times and all the problem was a stupid tube. AHS is at 50-50 with me.

There was a time when something went wrong with our washing machine and they replaced the pump successfully.

American Home Shield's prices are too high. They need to lower their prices from $100 back to $75 again. And the people they send out sometimes suck. For us to be paying the price that we pay, we should have quality work done. When my heater went out, it was never resolved until the second man came out. And that's because I told him that he cannot leave until it's fixed. I submit my claim through their website or by calling. Their customer service reps make the appointment and that's it. The contractors just tell me what's going on and then they just leave. It seems like American Home Shield is the only company that we can go to because everybody else is crap. There were some issues with my sink and I submitted my claim with American Home Shield. One issue was for a constant drip from the sink, which I was very unhappy with. And then, the garbage disposer was also not working. I submitted the claim through their automated system, and it didn't give me many options and I was waiting on hold for 40 minutes for an actual person to describe the issue to them. So, the best option, if I wanted something quick, was to pick up the options that they had available. It was awful. They give a series to choose from and I wasn't too sure of what to pick but I still had to pay for it regardless.
The guy who came for the drip issue was horrible. He came for a leaking faucet but the issue was something else. He could only fix for the leaky faucet which was what was on the list. I asked if he could call AHS and let them know that it was not the problem, but he said he could just come back or I'll get somebody else. I had to fight him just to look at it to tell me what the problem was. So when I'd call back, I could negotiate because it would be another $50 to $100. He looked at it and moved some things around and said it was something that was not screwed in tightly, and he could do it for me. He screwed it in tightly but after he left, it still leaked really bad. So, someone else came and fixed the problem. It was actually a clog in the sink.
The person who came for the garbage disposer was a little bit nicer. And underneath the disposer, he used one of his little tools and was able to take the small towel that got lodged in the pipe. There was another leak in the handle of the sink knob, and he advised me that I would probably get a brand new one if I call the number from the brand for the knobs. I was able to call and get that myself.
I strongly discourage going with American Home Shield. I've been on hold with them for an hour before. Once you get on the phone with them, you better know exactly what you need. The people on the phone are not helpful and not friendly. My husband picked AHS and we've been with them for so long but I definitely would not have gone with them if I had a choice.

They got back to me rather quickly with the contractor company that would come out and do the repair but that individual never ended up getting a hold of me. So after about five days, they scheduled it with Sears and the tech ended up coming out within a day. He was professional and looked at the refrigerator. He figured out what the issue was, which was the thermostat. He had to order it and it was sent directly to our house. He came out again five days later, replaced the thermostat, and everything’s fine. The refrigerator has been great since the repair. Having a warranty on our property is really important. It was really smart of our real estate agent to get American Home Shield for us. Their website is pretty good, straightforward and easy to navigate. AHS normally sends out technicians in less than a week after we filed the claim. One thing that would be really useful for AHS to do is for customers like us to be able to plug in who we've already used before so we could use them again because we want to be always working with the same service provider if possible.
I once tried to make a request on the phone and it was a nightmare. I was having an emergency and I had to wait for an hour on the phone. I was waiting and waiting, and finally, I just went online. But the technician who came was great and everything was fixed. We've only had great service people. And we will be ongoing customers with AHS because this is the most brilliant service. A contractor gets to service within a day or two and they’ll usually call me and tell me if there is something going on. A recent claim I had was the problem with my washer. So, I got a second opinion and the person said yes to the necessary changes although not all as the breaker was from 1970, and nobody sells it. It was very hard to turn on and off, and people said it was a secondary problem.
I told the person that the breaker needs to be changed as it was dangerous. So the next day, I called and they said that insurance will be paid and I need to call to make an appointment. When I made the appointment, they said that the insurance won’t be paid but I told them that somebody needs to check. I called a thousand times and every time, they say they will check. They got the heater fixed and it is working better now. I also spoke to the reps because I had questions regarding a letter I got from AHS saying that they're not going to be continuing our contract after this year. I've been a customer of AHS in good standing for almost 10 years now. Here are the major points I want to voice: The wait times at AHS are very long. Their recording just permanently says "we are experiencing unusual high call volumes." AHS has my wife's name wrong and they have had it that way since the beginning. The wait times are too long for me to correct this. Also, only certain departments can correct this and they have more limited working hours. There is an extra fee on my account that I need to call about. I paid my service fee already. This fee appears to be for the follow-up visit which specifically said "no charge" and which AHS did not cover. I paid out of pocket even though the problem only existed after the first visit. I am going to fight this additional charge since I already paid out of pocket.
Hi, Paul. Thank you for taking the time to submit this review based on your experience. I apologize for the hold time situation. We are making huge strides in getting that issue remedied. Before that though, they would not cover my heating air conditioning unit. So, I didn't have heat in my house for over four months. I just ended up paying out of pocket which was ridiculous. We’ve replaced two units because it was almost cheaper to buy brand new units than it was to put Freon back in. We’ve had issues with some of the plumbing where the plumbers didn’t get out here. We had a guy the other day come out and said that the issue wasn’t covered but when I called American Home Shield, they said it’s covered. And then, we also had someone who said they were going to get a part and it has been a week. Also, we had an experience with a service provider when we first moved in which was a nightmare. The last couple of times that I've used American Home Shield worked out great. They have never batted an eye to remedy the situation and with the experience that I've had, the whole system worked pretty good. When they couldn't get my dryer to work, I got a new one. Then with the recent one, I had to call back regarding my microwave. The part that they tried to fix could not be fixed so they had to replace the whole unit. They gave me the depreciated value of the unit and told me to go out and buy the unit with the cash they are attempting to give. I sent the receipt and email, and I have not heard back from them yet. They said it would take seven to 10 days so I'm just waiting.
Having an AHS warranty would be the best investment and purchase you could make for your home, especially if your home is over 10 years old. If you live there, everything is 10 years old and it's going to start to deteriorate. My brother, who turned me on to home warranties since he's in the industry, also told me told me that it's the best gift to somebody. I've recommended AHS to my girlfriend and she got it, so we're both going to get a $25 gift card. And that's a nice feature with this company.

Our most recent claim related to heating was an ongoing issue and it was a long process that should have never even taken place. I’m actually thinking about dropping American Home Shield because that was a very frustrating experience. The air-conditioning unit went out and it should have been replaced. I was waiting for American Home Shield but I had to almost jump through hoops to finally authorize them to replace it. I had to get one of their contractors to come out and say it was broken. It was an old unit but they kept trying to slap on parts for a unit that was too old and it finally went out because the wires were burning up and causing a safety issue. That was when they were finally able to replace it but it was a shame that it took so long for them to do that and it took so long for them to make a decision. I had to stay in a hotel for two weeks until they were able to get it taken care of.
The unit is excellent now and it is probably the best it has been in years. The contractor was very understanding and he did what he had to do and it was done professionally. It was just the process of getting someone to declare it unfixable so they can replace it. American Home Shield could have reached out a little more. It is a shame that I almost had to go out and follow-up with them every step of the process. If I don’t call early in the morning, then I’m going to be on the phone for 30 minutes just to talk to an operator or an actual person. From beginning to the end of the claim, they should have replaced it then instead of sending out multiple contractors who don’t work on that unit anymore. It was broken and they should have stopped trying to put parts on something that was broken.
The prices are reasonable and I still would recommend them. I had other issues that went out and they weren’t too bad. But they definitely need some room for improvement in terms of their customer service. It felt like I was doing more of the legwork to get the ball rolling than they are. I have had issues with other appliances but they’ve always come through so it is not a constant. But if something else goes wrong and I have to go through this whole process again, then I will, for sure, leave American Home Shield and go with another company.

Our dryer had a sensor issue so we placed the service call with American Home Shield and this was the first time I tried placing a claim online. The online option to place my service call as well as being able to pay online were good. The contractors were good about setting up a time or letting us know when they were available. We had to wait a few days or so, then we found out that they had to find a part so we also had to wait for that. The tech was good about telling us what was wrong with it and what part it was. He told us that it was something that happens over time with those types of dryers. He even gave us a few pointers about cleaning the dryer vent. They were very good at communicating when the part was ready, when this would be done, and when they would be able to come back. It was a quick fix and the dryer is working now.
American Home Shield has been good as far as setting claims up. We’ve had another home warranty before and they were good too. We were just shopping for prices. When I was looking into American Home Shield and at the pricing, I was able to call and talk to somebody about it. They were very good at informing me about the specials they have on the pricing. I would definitely suggest them.

My air conditioning is 30 years old. About six years ago, American Home Shield came out and I applied to winterizing my house. They replaced all the working parts in that air conditioning and that's why it was working so good. However, it started leaking Freon and froze a solid sheet of ice on the outside. I got my water bill shortly after that and it was $10 more than I normally had. But then I got the bill this month and it was down $10. So the first guy used the $10 worth of water just to get the ice off outside of that air conditioner.
He was working at a house across the street from me and he saw my air conditioner. He came over and said that I need to have something done to the air conditioner right now since it's running my electricity bill way up. I told him that I have AHS to do it. But he said that I needed to have something done right at that time and don't have to wait a day. So I went ahead and let him do it. He put in two pound of Freon which was $50 a pound. However, he didn’t have a tap to put on to stop that leak and so I had to call someone else to come out because after that was done, it froze over again but not quite as heavily.
I called AHS and explained to them what had gone on and so they called me a technician and he was very thorough. He called me that he was coming and he was on time. He replaced the stem and the tap on and fixed that. Right now, the air conditioner is working fine. He did his work in a timely manner and I was really pleased with him. I'd like to keep him if I can. So far, I have had good service with AHS. They have found me good people and I would recommend them to others.

I have been with American Home Shield for four years now and I don’t know if it’s the particular company that they send out or their own policy that they never have the parts when I have a washer or a dryer issue. They've got to order them and I work for a living so a lengthier repair is a hassle. But when I had some ice developing outside of my air conditioning unit when it was left on and the heat wasn’t working, I went online to submit the claim and it was good. I have American Home Shield so I don't have to worry about that stuff. I got a call in a reasonable amount of time and the person was nice. The guy who came out was even nicer. He was a really good guy.

Every time I have used American Home Shield, I have been very pleased with the people I’ve spoken with on the phone and the contractors that they've used. The reps were very courteous and they got it taken care of for me. Also, I've had several different contractors and every one of them has been very professional. The last thing they were out for was when they had to replace the hose and the sprayer on my kitchen sink. The contractor they sent was very personable. Overall, American Home Shield was a very good investment. I’d highly recommend them.

We had flooding in the house and about $15,000 worth of damage. I called American Home Shield and they didn't respond. So I’m not happy with them. I called a couple of times already and I had to wait for four hours to be able to file a claim. I was told that it would take four days for them to send a contractor out because it was Christmas time and the techs wanted to do it after the holidays. But I couldn't have all the flooding in the house for that long so I had no choice but to call somebody else.
I found somebody with a reasonable price to do the work and I had to spend another $400-$500. Then I wanted AHS to reimburse me. They investigated but when I called again, they still wouldn't respond. I’m a good customer and I pay my bills. I have been doing this for 20 years already and they put me down. For many years, AHS was better but they're getting worse now. The expense is okay but the service is not good and the delay is very bad. So at the moment, I’m trying to get a different company. I would also tell others not to take AHS.

I thought I had a leak in the ceiling and that went on for a day before I submitted my claim to American Home Shield. I called them up and they sent somebody out. Their process was very easy and their reps were very nice. Then I spoke with the contractor on the phone and he was fantastic. But it turned out that it was not a leak and I was annoyed. He said there was no plumbing there, just condensation or humidity. I still had to pay him for his time, though, because he came out and made an assessment. Other than that, he was very nice and I would use him again in a heartbeat. All in all, I was pleased that I had American Home Shield, so I didn’t have any issue paying the money to bring their contractor out. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind and security, and I would recommend them. My parents have the AHS warranty, too and that’s how I have it.

There was a plumbing issue with the faucet in the house and American Home Shield sent somebody out who fixed it, but I never received any feedback. I didn't get a call from anybody saying that the problems have been resolved. I gave Renters Warehouse American Home Shield’s phone number. The tenant calls Renters Warehouse and they handle the claims for me, but AHS also doesn't call them. I usually have to call AHS and ask if they resolved the problem. Nonetheless, AHS resolved everything satisfactorily. Also, I was solicited by another home warranty folks and they were a little bit cheaper and at a $50 call fee. I haven’t changed yet, but that's probably who I will go to.

The water heater went out and I filed the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. They sent an AC guy first then they had to call somebody else to give him out some plumbing. However, AHS said they paid for the plumbing but I ended up paying about $600 for the plumbing myself. I could have gotten the heater out and got one myself. I was disappointed but that was okay. Then, a teller told me that they paid $100 on her warranty and they came and replaced their water heater so I’m probably going to switch to what she has. That aside, the people who came was great and everything about my experience with AHS was okay. After the repair, the water heater is working fine.
I understand your concerns with the noncovered cost that were paid to have your water heater replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Our furnace was acting up and we weren't sure what was going on. It was working but it was making a horrible noise. We were concerned that there was going to be a problem and it kept getting worse. When I called American Home Shield, we were assigned a heating company. They were going to come out, but then, we had a problem because this was around the holidays. We talked three weeks ahead of time to fix it because we weren't going to be home. We closed it out and I was told to call back in. Then I called in since I knew we were going to be home for the next two weeks and the lady said that she'll have my appointment set up right then and there.
When I authorized the payment, I thought that it would be automatic on the day that I called it in. They said that it goes when they do the work. I messed up, so I had to go, pay it then call back in. That was all taken care of and everybody was really nice about it. I learned more about how they worked. The vendor, Rose Heating, called us and said they were on their way. We received a slot time and a courtesy call before they went out saying, "He has one call before you." Then, the tech called right when he was coming over saying, "I'm just leaving my appointment. I should be there." He also gave me an estimate of time.
The tech was professional. Our furnace was in the attic, which wasn't the best location. We're in a fairly new house for us and he walked us through where it was. He tested it, gave us all the results and told us what was going on as well as what the problem was. He fixed the problem then left without leaving a mess. He not only fixed the problem, but he gave us a little education. My husband and I learned a lot about our furnace, like what is normal and what isn't normal. He went above and beyond of what I expected. We've used American Home Shield's service before with other issues in the house. We've also had a plumber and the electrician come out.
We've been with American Home Shield on this house since 2014. We've had other home warranties in the past. We had a rental property. We had one on that as well as our other house. So far, we were satisfied and if I was going to buy another house or look at providing another coverage on any of the properties, I would definitely give AHS the first crack.

The refrigerator was leaking and the water was running. One night I opened the freezer door of the refrigerator and it was all water and I had to throw out all my food. It was midnight so I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield. But it was bad because the first available appointment was the next week. After the next day I called them and they canceled that one and they sent me Right Refrigerated.
The contractor from Right Refrigerated was so polite, nice, and professional. A week after I was at home sleeping and it was eight o'clock, I got my coffee and I saw somebody ringing the bell. I thought that American Home Shield must have sent another company to look at our refrigerator for second opinion. That guy from United Air Temp was so rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. I asked him to take his shoes off because it was raining outside and he said, "I'm already in your house." After that he told me to turn off the refrigerator for 24 hours and then turn it on. He left and I'm cleaning after him because of all these spots from his shoes. He came back again not even in five minutes and said, "Oh, I'm going to put something there. Just turn it off for 48 hours and turn it on." I said, "What? I'm going to go for 48 hours without refrigerator?" He told me to go buy a cooler.
I got so insulted and I said that I'm paying for my insurance $55 something a month for 14 years. Then he told me, "Oh, you do that?" I called American Home Shield after that and I said that I'm not happy with what the contractors did. They said, "They're not supposed to even to be in your home. We canceled that appointment." United Air Temp didn’t give me any receipt. The guy was done and they said, "Ignore it." I said, "How would AHS know I did it?" I never, ever want to have anything to deal with that company. Other than that everything works very well with AHS.
