I just switched over to American Home Shield in January and when I made a claim on the phone for a motor that had failed, it was very easy. They reported anything and got everything scheduled. The contractor was outstanding too. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They kept us in the loop on what was going on and when they were going to arrive. They ran into some issues but they fixed them very promptly. All around, it was a good deal. They were probably one of the best contractors I’ve ever had. It was an excellent experience and I’m pretty happy with American Home Shield, as well as the contractors.

The was plumbing was backed up and when I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield, their process was pretty straightforward. The contractor called me first then they sent me an email and set up an appointment. After, they got there as it was scheduled and they did a good job. Everything is fine now.
Hello, Aleksey. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience. Plumbing problems can be scary. Glad we got someone out quickly.

I’m a realtor and my company deals with American Home Shield, so I have signed up with them on my home and my condo. But, I probably won’t renew with them. You have to pay $75 every time for a service call and they’re also starting to exclude too much stuff now that they didn’t exclude 10 years ago. Home Check, which I had before, was better, but they got too pricey. But then, American Home Shield went from $50 to $75 per service call and they would make you pay for the actual policy for the year. With Home Check, they had no service fee and you would pay one flat fee a year.
Getting through American Home Shield on the phone to set up an appointment is hard. They always say their lines are too busy and you have to do it online, or you won’t get through and then you have to wait. Then you will get either an email or a phone call from whoever they will be sending out. AHS doesn’t set it up for you and they’re not doing any work. You’re paying the $75 and they will give you the name and that’s it. Then you have to wait for the contractor to call you, or you have to contact them to set up the schedule. It’s a lot of work. And they’re way overboard on the exclusions for plumbing, air conditioning, appliances and, everything. A lot of the agents at our office are no longer pushing them.
I didn't want to pay the $75 each time because I had been paying every month for my two policies on my home and condo. And it’s too much paperwork and too many receipts to keep tracking for taxes. When the contractor that AHS sent out before had to come three times for the same problem, they were threatening me with the policy and saying that I would be charged if they had to keep coming. Though I told that them it was for the same issue, I had to check my credit card to make sure they were not charging me the $75 again. AHS is a huge company and they're nice and pleasant, but the service fees are a turn-off and they should get rid of them. Other than that, I like them and I’m glad I have a home warranty.

I had an issue with my heating where I thought that it wasn’t receiving enough heat, that the boiler wasn’t really working. I made an online claim to AHS and it was very simple. It was very easy to use that tool and was user-friendly. My dad was home and handled everything when the contractor came. He said the guy seemed like a very nice gentleman. He checked the heating out and it turned out to be fine.

I spoke with an AHS representative over the phone for an appliance claim. Then, they asked me what brand my refrigerator is. They sent out a repair guy to work on it. But, this is the second time that they've sent out a guy who could not work on the brand once he got to me. So they had to send out a second guy whom they had to wait on, then they had to order the part. The repair took a lot longer because of that. AHS did the same thing when my dryer broke down. They sent out somebody who couldn't work on GE appliances, yet they asked me what brand the dryer was. So, the process was annoying because of that. Still, their contractor was really good and my refrigerator has been working fine since the repair.

We’ve had American Home Shield since 1997 and it has been great to have. I generally submit claims to American Home Shield over the phone and for my recent appliance claim, I requested a particular company because I like their work. We bought a new refrigerator from Home Depot in December 2016 and we had to get it repaired in August 2017. The freezer part has not worked twice and the food defrosted. Recently, I had my birthday and the cake melted all over. It was terrible. The technician had to order a part and he’s going to come back out.

The handle on my built-in microwave broke. I called them and the representative I spoke with was very nice. They sent out one gentleman, who was very respectful, and he ordered the microwave for me and they assigned another company to come and install it. They were here for 45 minutes, and the microwave works great. Other than that, I have had American Home Shield too for my refrigerator, my air conditioner and my furnace, and I have not had any problems with any of the companies they have sent out. If someone would ask about American Home Shield, I would tell they should get them.

Something was wrong with my air conditioner and I called American Home Shield. Their level of customer service was pretty good, but it took a long time for me to get through. I paid $100 for the service and somebody came within 24 hours. The guy that came out here was perfect because he didn’t try to beat me down or sell me anything and I couldn’t ask for anybody better. He looked at the AC unit, then he went into my garage and around the back. He told me what was wrong with my air conditioner and he took care of it. My AC is working again and everything is back to normal. American Home Shield is worth the money and I'd recommend them. They need more people to answer the phone, but other than that they were perfect. Having them is like having insurance on my car.

My wife said American Home Shield lets you sleep at night. It lets her sleep at night but not me. We've had American Home Shield for a while and for the first 10 years, every year they went up on the premiums, every year they went up on the house call, and every year they went down on what they covered. Every year they found loopholes not to cover something even though it said that it was covered. They told us that if our refrigerator’s gone, they'll give us something equal to it. That was a lie because we had a stainless-steel refrigerator and a stainless steel washer, but they gave us white.
They told me to get the parts of it and they’ll give it to me outright. They have a warehouse full of them so their price is what they’ll give me. I said that it meant they bought 5,000 of that special washing machine to get that price at 600 when it was a $1,000, and then they give me the buyout of the white one which was cheaper. My wife said they still gave us $650 and I said that was fine, but I’d like to take the contract words for it. I went online and I've read 500 reviews in a row, and not one was good. They know that they have a corporate lawyer and we won't sue them because we’ll lose and we won't get anything. They don't care if it's 5,000 bad reviews in a row. That's just the way they are.
The reps are always rude on the phone and not friendly. I talked to a woman and I said the last five years were 25, 30, and 35 and $50 on my premium had doubled. She said that I have used American Home Shield of about $15,000. That is absolutely none of her business. I pay my premiums and I told her who the heck she was to tell me how much I've used it for. I don't care if I used it for $150,000 worth. That's totally irrelevant and she shouldn't be bringing that up. That was very unprofessional telling me how much I've used it for to justify their increase in the home visit and the increase in the premium. I'm not a big American Home Shield fan and I think they are a rip-off.
They sent me a guy to do a water heater and gave me a bill for $2,108. I would have to pick that out of my pocket because AHS will only give me a $1000 for it. I said I didn’t want to use that guy and AHS told me I had to get three written bids and submit them. Within five days I had three people come over and give me a bid for 940, 880 and 960. I called AHS back and I said I was going to use a different person, but that didn't send up a red flag at all that the guy they sent wanted to charge me more than double the three bids I got. They said nothing and did nothing.
One year later, they sent him again for my faucet and I told the guy to turn around and get out of here. I told AHS that they sent the same company that tried to charge me more than double the three bids last year and I told them I don't ever want that company in my house again. They told me to get three bids and I said, “I have to go through this again?" So, I got three bids and I took one of the guys. If something goes wrong, AHS used to be here in 24 hours but now it's 48 hours and just wish we don't have anything happen on Friday afternoon because we’re in trouble. We used to pay $200 something a year and it’s now $600 a year for our premium. Now, they come to the door at $75, when it used to be $25.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The only time I've needed to call American Home Shield was because of plumbing issues. The reps were always very polite and personable when I call. The very first one that I spoke to that lived in Georgia was very familiar with the area that I live in because she used to come visit here when she was a kid. It started with my toilet in the main bathroom. The guts inside the toilet have been changed a couple of time and came down to a sediment problem in the pipes. There was also a leak that sprung inside the wall and they acted at the call very quickly. A person came out the next day and changed the pipe. American Home Shield has always been great about their service.
Some of the local plumbers here in Beaufort don't have a good reputation and American Home Shield didn't use them. The plumbing company American Home Shield sent was located a few miles away from here. They're called High Priority Plumbing and they're based on Hilton Head, South Carolina. They showed up around 9 o'clock in the morning each time. They always give me a phone call 10 minutes before they arrive. They're knowledgeable. I even let them go ahead and change the plumbing in the house because it was causing the sediment problem. The copper pipes spring leaks when they had too much sediment in them, spinning around in the pipes. The pipes were old and very thin so that was a good call.
All the plumbing was changed just last Thursday. They even changed the guts in the main toilet again because they were full of sediment again. It was usually that the toilet would overflow again from the tank because the floater gets the sediment problem and it doesn't float up. There was no problem since then. I would tell a friend that if they get the chance to get a warranty with American Home Shield they should go and take the warranty.

Everything for the claim with American Home Shield for my dishwasher that quit working was done through email. I asked them to send out a tech to try and fix it. But there were too many problems with it so they decided to put a new one. I went on my email and had a link to have the new dishwasher. They scheduled somebody to deliver and install it and I had a new dishwasher in about two weeks later. The contractor was on time, got the dishwasher installed and did a good job. The whole process was simple and American Home Shield is definitely worth having.

When we bought our house a little over a year ago, our realtor suggested American Home Shield. When we had a light that didn't work, I put in a claim and submitting it online was fairly easy. The only time I didn't like using their online service was when I have a particular company that I'd like to answer the service call and it was invisible to me who American Home Shield is going to assign. Like for our pool, we found a particular company who worked well and we wanted them to make sure that they repeat. I called AHS before, but the wait times were bad, although it was understandable. Other than that, AHS sent out an electrician and he took less than an hour to fix the light. He did a good job. I'd recommend AHS to a friend who will ask me about them.

When I submitted the claim online because I had no heat, American Home Shield took care of it right away on the same day. It was wonderful. We have been using their service for just a few months and every time I’ve had to call, American Home Shield has done right there the same-day service. I didn't expect to use it as often but I am glad I had it. They have fixed every one of my claims and their service is excellent. The contractor for the heat was very knowledgeable and polite. I was surprised that he was so young but he was very well-mannered. He knew what he was doing but he wasn’t one of those know-it-all kids that I usually run into. He did a wonderful job and I was impressed.

My furnace wouldn’t light anymore. I put in a claim over the phone with AHS and when the contractor came, he introduced himself and I showed him the problem. He looked at it and explained to me what he felt was wrong with it. Then he went back out to his truck, got some of the parts, and fixed it. But then, he realized that something else was wrong so he went back out to his truck, got another part, and fixed it completely. Before the repair, I was freezing in here because I had no heat and it was one of those cold days. So far, I’ve had numerous things done through AHS so I’ve met different people doing different jobs, and the people that they sent out were very professional.

She had to order a blower motor and then she got the dryer working. Also, the plumber who they always sent for my heating and air was fantastic. The workers that AHS has sent out are great and I have recommended AHS.

I called American Home Shield to file my claims and I didn’t wait very long on the phone. I’ve had to do that in a couple of occasions with a different company for different things, but with American Home Shield, if I waited at all it was only a couple of minutes. In the claim I submitted with American Home Shield for my air conditioner, the technician came out and he was good, kind, and very courteous, and I liked him. He didn’t mind dealing with an old man asking questions. He told me about the machine, the best thing that he could do with it, and the part that had to be ordered because they didn’t have it in stock. He did what he had to do and he fixed my air conditioner.
Several years ago, I had a run-in with American Home Shield about a different air conditioner that I had. I had my current air conditioner put in after that one. They weren’t going to pay for a problem with that air conditioner which was not my fault, but I was going to have to pay for the repair anyway, and I said that I wouldn’t need them anymore. Before that, I had good experiences with American Home Shield, but that made a big difference, so I didn’t use them for several years. But then I thought that they had mostly treated me fairly. Also, I looked at a couple of other home warranty providers and I didn’t like their operation. So, I decided to go back with American Home Shield and everything was fine in my experience with them this time.

The rep was very professional and helpful when I called and submitted a claim for draining and mechanical issues with my washer. The contractors came within a couple of days and my tenants told me that they were very professional. They were able to fix the issue and now the washer's working great. AHS is reliable and a better warranty company as compared to others. I am very comfortable with having their warranty and the amount of dollars I pay them in a month pays for itself in the long run when something goes wrong.

My fridge quit and the ice maker wasn't working. I could also tell that the oven wasn't working because it wasn't baking like it should and the burners on the top take about 15 minutes to boil water. I called AHS and they called the repair guy, who then came right away and did the work. We just bought this house and there weren't any manuals or anything so we didn't really know where to start when the stove and the refrigerator didn't work. He walked us through it and it was fine. He then said the oven was off but I don't think he did anything about the burners. We just moved here and we don't know anybody and AHS found us the repairman so it was good. I would definitely tell people to go with them.

I had a dryer that wasn’t working at all, and I had it repaired. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was fine. It was everything else that was problematic. I submitted the claim on November 27th, and someone came out to my house for service on December 7th. The contracting company who came out said that they had to order certain parts for the dryer to be operable again, and they submitted that paperwork to American Home Shield, who then called me on the 14th offering me a reimbursement if I chose to purchase my own dryer, which the reimbursement was the cost of the repair. I chose to let American Home Shield repair the dryer, and I told them I wanted to order the parts, but they were on back order. The parts were supposed to come in on January 5th, but American Home Shield couldn’t get to the contracting company until January 12th. I could deal with that as it was my option.
However, my dryer wasn’t fixed until February and the contracting company closed out my claim because they hadn’t heard anything back from American Home Shield. I called American Home Shield on the 19th of January, and their customer service was not very good in terms of directing my call. They left me on hold for an hour and after that, I got to someone who was shuffling me around. Then I needed to speak to a manager who told me that they ordered the parts and that the earliest they could be in was on the 21st of January. But it was a lie. And they had scheduled me for an appointment on the 27th of January between 9:00 and 12:00.
On January 27th, the contractor never showed up, the parts were never shipped, and American Home Shield had no idea what was going on, so I was calling the contractor and American Home Shield with no resolve. I then spoke to someone at American Home Shield on the 29th, and they assured me that the parts were delivered to the contractor and then the contractor called and scheduled me for February 3rd. The contractor was great but they can only do the work that they were contracted to do. It was a horrible customer service experience from American Home Shield, and it was very disturbing and disheartening as well. The contractor was timely in coming out and assessing the issue and reporting the issue back to American Home Shield, but American Home Shield dropped the ball.
American Home Shield's dashboard system online is terrible because it doesn’t let you know what the status of the claim is. It said my claim was closed but the work hadn’t been done. There’s no go-between, and nobody follows up with the customers after the fact. Also, their automated service on the phone doesn’t direct you where you need to go because I'm still getting cycled to the same one hour hold time. I understand that the calls are handled in the order that they were received, but if I’m calling about an existing claim and that’s not an option, then I have to wait in the queue with the people who are trying to file claims. There should be a different queue for different situations, and if I got an issue with the parts department, I need to be directed to the parts department, directly from the automated service, or I need to be able to press zero or pound or star, and get directed to a manager.
My first experience with American Home Shield was amazing, but this experience with the dryer has been very off-putting. Even more so, I had a manager follow up with me throughout the process, and I asked her to remove my payment method, and have someone call me to cancel my service. American Home Shield never called, and then I had to wind up going in and paying because I couldn’t cancel the contract properly. They reimbursed me the one month and my service fee, but they should have reimbursed me the three months that I was without a dryer because it was their fault. I don’t matter to them as a customer, and I couldn’t even get feedback from a manager about canceling my account. I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that was experienced to have your dryer repaired and the overall customer service experience. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issues that have occurred.

My water heater went out and I had a leak. I called American Home Shield and the contractor came and said that we needed a new water heater. Then AHS sent another contractor. They were two guys and they came with a water heater but I had to pay for that. They just needed the connection and that was it. I'm paying AHS $60 something a month and I was thinking about canceling that because I can get anybody to hook up a water heater. The time I had trouble with my microwave, I had to pay $200. I could almost go buy another microwave for that. The contractors sent by AHS were nice, but the company is not them. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield wasn't good because I had to pay for the water heater. I will tell my friends what I experienced.

My most recent claim was for the pool pump. When it comes on, it comes on for four hours a day and the pump was barely rippling the water. I called American Home Shield and the customer service rep that I spoke with was very professional and nice. I asked them not to send Aqua Bright because I have had some dubious service from them in the past where they would not give me a receipt, did never turned in my check that I had to have that I had to hassle with American Home Shield. But this time, American Home Shield set in a place where I can go ahead and just pay them and you have to pay the service technician who comes out.
They booked Aqua Bright then Aqua Bright called me and made an appointment. They came out and sent out a really nice young man. I told him I did not want them because of the previous problems and he informed me that the perpetrator of the previous problem no longer worked at the company because he was stealing from them. The guy was very professional. He turned the pump on and off and looked at everything. He found a crack in the top of the pump and said it was what was doing it ‘cause it wasn’t allowing pressure to build. Unfortunately, he didn't have the top of the pump so he had to go back to the shop and get one. It took him half an hour to come back then he replaced it and ran the pump for a while to see how it react. It reacted wonderfully and my pool is clean.
American Home Shield was a little slow but has always been very good. They’ve replaced everything. Last summer, I was in Mexico and my sister, Sandra, lived here. My sister phoned me in Mexico to tell me that the refrigerator had gone hoofed up. I told her to phone American Home Shield and they sent a guy who checked everything out. Even one claim they replaced a $25 part in AC but I paid $125, but realized that is the deal to have service. They always can't even find reputable companies to work with them because the workers say AHS doesn't pay bills and denies lots of claims after service. We've had multiple issues with multiple contractors that they have sent out. They're sending bottom of the barrel contractors who have multiple complaints against them and bad consumer reviews. The company they sent out for our AC repair wanted to charge us for 11 pounds of refrigerant at $75 a pound when come to find out our unit only holds a maximum of 7 pounds. They also said we had a leak in a coil, but they never actually looked to see where the leak was coming from so how do they know?
Another AC unit they serviced stopped working again after 3 weeks. We had a contractor come out for our refrigerator and it's going on 2 weeks now and we still don't have the problem resolved. We have a newborn baby at home, we can't go weeks on end without heat and a refrigerator. I tried contacting AHS several times through calls and online chats and they are unwilling to resolve any issues only saying they will note it. We have called our own contractors out and will just pay out of pocket. We are tired of the hassle and getting the runaround. I will definitely not be renewing our contract in April. Money down the drain!

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 2 years now. 18 months in and we had our first claim, our air conditioner was not working. We called it in, paid our deductible, and about 3 months later a service repair person contacted us to come out to the house. The visit was completed, they needed parts, they said they would contact us as soon as the parts came in. By this time it was midwinter and we were not needing our air conditioner. This is good because 4 months after that I had to call them back to see if the part was in yet!
This could speak more to the quality of their contractors, but the issues I've had around American Home Shield begin about the time the contractor first visited the house. This is when they started sending me notifications that I had not paid my deductible. I called in to find out about this and they told me they had no record of the payment and if I wanted to prove I paid it I had to gather all my documentation and fax it to a certain number with all of these different registration numbers written on it... I did this.
Months went by, and they are now sending me notifications again that I have not paid this deductible. Again I called customer service, they are very unhelpful! All they can tell me is they have no record of the payment in the system, and it's completely on me if I want to provide any kind of proof, otherwise I owe the money. I tried to speak with a supervisor, I was told there are no supervisors. I said surely someone is in charge of this company. I was eventually told that they could have someone call me back at some point in time, in some kind of supervisor capacity. So, in summary, all we have received from American Home Shield is very slow service, very poor customer service, and a constant money-grubbing attitude.

I called AHS in December 2017 to repair my HVAC system in my home. They assigned the work to a local contractor who came out, inspected the unit and advised they do not service the type of unit in my home. AHS then assigned another contractor located in Florida, my home is located in a rural area in Louisiana. I contacted the second contractor and they advised me they do not service this area. I contacted AHS the third time and they told me to find a local contractor who can do what needs to be done; have the contractor submit an estimate for the work.
I called a local HVAC company and they came and inspected the unit and advised it has to be replace and they submitted an estimate to replace the unit. AHS is refusing to cover the costs of replacement. Their claims rep told me that since they do not have a contractor in this area all they will do is cash me out for $1500 and I have to pay the balance. If they has a contractor they would do all the work. I talked to several HVAC contractors and they advised problem is not their ability to service this area, it is AHS refusal to pay what the services cost in this area. Bottom line, I am now left with a huge repair bill that should be covered. This is very poor service and a breach of contract. I am a Real Estate Agent and I intend to advise every agent I know to keep their customers away from American Home Shield.
Lafayette, I regret to hear about your recent experience with American Home Shield. A social media specialist will follow up with you as quickly as possible regarding the issue.

I have been a customer of AHS for the past 10 years. In 2016 I had my first service call. My condenser on my A/C unit had to be replaced. There was actually no issue with the transaction portion of the call. It was with the service. The AC repairmen stated that the new condensing unit had to be taken apart to fit through the access of the attic then put back together in the attic. The repairman started taking it apart, took it to the attic and then did not know how to put it back together!! I took over and put the unit back together myself (I have prior A/C experience).
The unit was then installed by the technician. 10 days later I noticed low air flow from my vents and went to the attic to investigate. The condensing unit had separated from the ducting (cooling my attic!!). I properly fixed the unit and have had no issues since. Earlier this year I had my second service call due to a faulty Hot Water Heater. My heater is a 75 Gallon unit, the technician that AHS sent to inspect the unit stated that 75 gallon units were no longer available (Not true, they are readily available), that he was going to put a 50 gallon unit in my home.
The technician actually stated that "the 50 gallon unit won't be enough to heat your water the way the 75 gallon one did but I am going to install a recirculating pump and expansion tank to help it out". He also stated that he had to install these items to "bring it to code". Guess what, all the "extra" bring it to code and make it as close to original installed equipment stuff is not covered under warranty! I contacted AHS and asked if I could get another plumber to come out and diagnose the problem. I even told them I would pay the $75 fee for the service call.
I was told "no" and I had 1 of 2 options. 1. Use the technician they sent out to do the work (which would cost me an additional $1200 and not work as well as my previously installed unit). 2. Receive a "cash out" from AHS. I contacted another local plumber that offered free estimates, he stated that 75 gallon units are available and did not understand why the other plumber needed to put the "extra" equipment in as it was not required. I opted to take the cash out option.
Here is where it gets even worse!! AHS originally wanted to give me $900. The best price I found for a 75 gallon unit was over $1300 and that did not include removal and installation. I contacted AHS and discussed this issue, they said the best price they could offer me would be $1207.00. Wow, that would cover the "extras". I took the $$, purchased a tankless water heater and installed it myself. I just received a letter in the mail from AHS, the letter stated that since I took the cash out option my water heater would not be covered under the warranty. Since this has happened I have conducted my own research from homeowners and real-estate agents. My review has revealed that AHS is notorious for underbidding and underpaying!! Need to find another Home Warranty company!!
I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that you have experienced to have several work orders fulfilled.

I have had American Home Shield for forever. I usually submit my claims with them over the phone and the most recent one I had was for a dishwasher. Submitting the claim was great and the contractor who came out knew how to do everything. He was great. The dishwasher has been doing good since he was here. So, everything in that experience went well. However, my biggest problem with American Home Shield is that they have not sent me the hard copy of my contract yet, which I've asked them five times now to mail me. I don't know my contract number and my husband has memory issues and he doesn't know to go to the computer to get the contract. And my printer is not working. They told me they were going to call me back twice to see if I received it. No phone call back either, which makes me very angry since I've been with this company for a very long time now.
Hi, Linda. I apologize that you have not received the hard copy of your policy. I do see the requests that were made, unfortunately, any mailings are out of our control. We make the requests and hope that the information is being mailed. Sometimes that can take longer than normal. You can access your policy information online at ahs.com.

We have been American Home Shield customers for 25 years now and I've always had a good relationship with them. The only thing is I had a little difficulty with the last call. There was a misunderstanding. Recently the water crawled out from the bathroom wall. It leaked so we called them and they said that they were going to send a plumber.
Today the plumber came over. He looked at the issue and told us that it is not covered. They're not gonna fix it because Home Shield will not cover. And they already deducted the $75 from our account. Then I called Home Shield and I spoke with a lady who was very kind and nice. She looked through the issue and she’s gonna take care of it and will get back to me. I’m just waiting for her to see how we should solve this problem.

I noticed from the basement level that it looked like there might be a leak from the floor above it where the toilet is on the main floor. So, I called AHS and I was surprised by needing to wait for five days for a contractor to come out. Other than that, my experience was great. Their reps were very accurate. Then the contractor said the they'd be here between 8:00 and 12:00, so I scurried to work and then scurried home and waited on them. They called at about 11:45 but the map that told me where they were said they were in Alexandria. I could’ve gone to work for a whole lot longer. But I know that happens and so we just needed to be patient when we’re homeowners.
Two gentlemen came and diagnosed the problem quickly. They felt that it was the seal beneath the toilet, so they caulked it and they were in and out very quickly. They told me to keep an eye from the basement. And I just checked it and so far, it’s holding up and that’s a good thing. Overall, I'm very happy with my experience.

I called American Home Shield because my water heater was leaking and I had it replaced. The service was fine and they did a good job. The contractor company was A Water Solution and they responded in a timely manner. Scott, the gentleman who did the work, was very knowledgeable and took the time to educate me about the process. However, I'm not happy that I had to pay $300 for modifications. That's crazy because part of the insurance should include those. A water heater costs about $500 and it seems like I'm paying $300 for something that if I didn't have the insurance, I would have paid another $200. Meanwhile, I pay $50 something a month. Though I don't like the value I get for my money, I would tell a friend to consider American Home Shield.

I initially submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and then they followed up. Within days, the contractor came out. The circuit board in the furnace had burned out and the contractor had to order some parts, and so the repair took until the next week to complete. The heater has been good since the repair, and it has been warmer at home. American Home Shield was very professional all the way through.

I had different things going wrong in our home so I called AHS. However, it was such a pain to get anybody on the phone. That was my biggest complaint. It was horrible. We're moving and the other house has Nations and I prefer them over AHS because they don't have a hold time. With AHS, the standard greeting is, "We're sorry because we have an extremely high call volume" and that should not be it. Also, you're stuck because you already paid half the service. But the electrician they sent was the best electrician we've ever had come out. He came in and addressed everything super quick, and was in and out in less than an hour. We've used AHS off and on for over 20 years now and it helps you rest easy to know that you've got some protection. They also have a variable service fee. I'm really not anticipating to have any issues and I'd rather not pay them the money upfront and just pay a little bit more if something does happen.

I had a leaking toilet recently. This happened on a Thursday night and I was going out of town Monday morning. The pipes had a hairline crack in it and were below the Valvoline, so I had to turn the water off in my entire house. Filing a claim with AHS was fairly simple. Their website is good, and it’s not hard to find your information and submit a claim. I was able to do it from my mobile phone, too.
The contractors that came to my home were awesome, and so was the company. I reached out to them when I got their number early Friday morning, gave them the situation, and they were able to have someone at my house that afternoon. That was a huge plus. Trying to get people to come out and have service get done the same day is a really difficult thing. The two contractors were very personable gentlemen. They explained what was going on, what they were doing, why this type of thing happens, and something that I can do to avoid other challenges that may occur from plumbing. Everything is great since the repair.
Home Shield's service lives up to what the expectations are, and it's great to have. The only thing I would say that’s a little odd and is kind of a pain is that when you set up the claim, you have to give the credit card number upfront. Maybe they experienced some fraud because that’s fairly new and I didn’t have to do that in the past. But other than that, I recommend American Home Shield to people all the time. I've been their customer for 20 years. I’ve needed their service, used it, and it hasn’t let me down yet.

I don't wear shoes upstairs and he noticed that so he took his shoes off, too. He knew what he was doing and I let him do his thing. It was a good experience and I'm completely satisfied with American Home Shield. The warranty works that's why I continue paying them about $400 a year. I recommend people to get it. I tell them about my experience and that the policy would save them a lot of money. My property is about 12 years old, just the normal lifespan of the washer and dryer as well as their parts. This is the time for them to start breaking down. If I need another washer-dryer or oven, then I have to purchase it, but paying $75 and getting it repaired is great.

My experience with American Home Shield was not very good. The claim was for my boiler water heater. I got myself into this situation because I did not quite understand what kind of heater I had and so the woman who I spoke with was annoyed that I did not know what I had. I knew it was different than the typical furnace but I could not tell her what I had.
I told AHS exactly how I felt, but they defended themselves and still continually put me down. It was one thing for my claim to be denied. However, I do not trust the judgment of this guy who came out to my house. He sounded immature. My grandson was there and told me that the kid said that he did not know very much and that he would have to talk to somebody. I am sorry that American Home Shield had people like that to send out to people like me. I am very dissatisfied. I have two accounts with and I'm thinking about at least canceling one of them. I would never ever recommend them.
Hello, Minnie. I apologize that you have had a bad service experience. I am showing that we approved the replacement of your furnace as well as the replacement of your evaporator coil for the A/C. There were certain modifications that were not covered under the warranty as well as on the A/C side, the warranty covers $10 per pound of the refrigerant and you would be out of pocket the remaining amount. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you about this situation.

Nevertheless, I got it straightened up and we’re going to take care of it. We had a water leak in the bathroom area from the upstairs basement into the bottom stairs basement or upstairs bathroom into the downstairs bathroom. Anytime anybody got in the shower upstairs, it would leak down into our bathroom downstairs through the ceiling. The contractor that American Home Shield sent out came and looked at the problem and decided it needed some work because there was a gap in the plumbing. That part got fixed but then we had issues after that too and we couldn’t figure it out. We found out that they had to seal the o-ring and they did that.
And then the third time they came out, we noticed that they didn’t seal the bathtub completely all the way around the edges. So, I could see where the water was coming from basically. The contractor left us a tube of sealant, and I took it and sealed the tub around. We had to wait until it was bone-dry before we put anything, and it’s been great ever since. I wish to God that we end up having coverage for some of our appliances but we don’t. Our oven and our dryer went off and we had to go and pay out of pocket for those. We’re satisfied with American Home Shield.

I started off with American Home Shield last June and it's been terrible. I've had it with multiple houses. It's easy to get ahold of them to sign up, but unless you're going online, which is not going to suit me, it's just been a waste of time. The problem is calling up. It’s taken me up to two hours to get ahold of somebody, so it's been very frustrating and I'm pretty much fed up with them. I had submitted three claims. One was for a fridge which I started getting the repair done in December and it only got fixed completely last week. I made multiple phone calls for this and that was extremely frustrating. I also had a front doorbell repair claim. Someone came by but I've not heard from them since, and I've made up a follow up online. Then the contractors were no good too, except for one guy--he was fine. I've sat at home multiple times and it would've been worthwhile to just pay more money and get my issues taken care of. I'm done with American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield over the phone to file a claim and the rep asked me what was wrong and I told them what I saw. They sent Perry Mechanical because my air conditioner was freezing and it built ice. The first technician took three days to get to my property and when he came in, he checked the AC and did not see anything wrong. He asked me different questions, too. I live in a condo and he went up on the roof then looked at the air handler unit downstairs. He said I had enough refrigerant and it was running fine. Then he said that he’s going to do some adjustments and to leave the fan on. He also told me that if the issue happens again, I have to note if the fan is still running and blowing. The tech was excellent.
Two weeks later, the same thing happened again so I turned the fan off right away. They came back, checked it and they said that I needed a new coil. Everything is doing good right now but we haven't had to run it much because it has been so cold. I've always been happy with my experience with AHS and I recommend them. However, it cost me $385 for the rest of the refrigerant when it was changed and that was a lot of money to put for the refrigerant. I’ll understand if they told me they’ll pay half and I’ll pay the other half. Now, the policy changed to $10 per pound. A friend of mine told me to check a warranty place and to find out if they have the same thing.
If I was to purchase a home where everything is brand new, I would get a warranty. And I’m going to recommend people who will buy my condo eventually to make sure that they have a warranty because it’s excellent. It has saved me the hassle when I had a problem when I first moved back with my fan. The first company that was sent out was awful. The technician had an attitude and he'd say, "You know, you're not the only one with problems. There are people who have bigger problems than you."
He brought his ladder, but he never got up to look at the fan. He just looked at it from the ground and said that it was a power surge because of the hurricane. I told him to take his ladder and go back. American Home Shield got to me and told us they understood our problem. The technician reported that I had an attitude and that I was mad because he said it would take me two months to get the part for my fan. Then, American Home Shield sent somebody else a day later. The guy who came got up on the ladder and looked at everything. He said that he needed to buy a piece. He went to Home Depot, bought the remote for the fan then came in, put it together and out of the house. Whoever AHS sent were really good technicians and very thorough.

I was not happy with the lady who came every time and it was the second or third time that she came since we had the claim with American Home Shield. She came at around 10 and was here until almost 4:30, and for four hours, she was in her truck. Because of that, I was home and she had excused us for everything. She went and then she came back and said that she would be changing the wall to high-pressure or low-pressure wall. I also asked about my other complaint. I said my faucet and the shower in my bathroom were leaking. And since the last time she did it, it was still leaking and my complaint was still there.
She changed some rubber in my bathroom and changed the showerhead we thought was leaking. I said that every time I open the faucet in my bathroom, the water is coming out and since the last time people came from the same company, the rubber bushing around the faucet started to leak again. After almost three hours of having arguments, she said she would talk to American Home Shield. She changed the high-pressure wall and I said I'm going to call American Home Shield and complain because I've been paying almost $800 to $900 per year plus whatever the charge is, but she was not doing the right thing.
However, it takes hours to get the right person at American Home Shield and the line disconnects. They should improve the number when customers are calling for a customer complaint. The number should be all ready and we should get to talk to customer service faster. Still, nothing has been done, except she replaced the low-pressure wall, and everything is the same. American Home Shield is amazing but I will not recommend American Home Shield at all because of that girl.

Then he came back. But it went out again and he could not fix it because it was the same issue, so he recommended to American Home Shield that we get a new one. I went out and bought a new one because I didn’t want to get a GE.

So I called them instead and explained the problem, then they sent someone out. The person who showed up said they were only there to work on the dryer. They fixed the problem and then they left. And I got a $100 for that.
Another person came to do the washer, in which I incurred another hit on my visa card for another deductible. When the technician looked at the washer, he told me that they can't fix it, and that it was a moldy bellow seal which wasn't covered. I called American Home Shield and they explained it wasn't covered. Then they told me that they would take the second charge off of my account, which was great because there was supposedly only one service call and I got two. But I've had people show up to charge me money for something they said couldn't be fixed, and I ended up replacing the bellows myself.
And then a third person showed up. It was an electrician that was originally there to work on my dishwasher, even though I didn't make any call about it. And the electrician went in and looked at the washer and dryer. He said that there was no electrical problem and he left. It has been almost a month and I still have the second $100 charge to my account. I called American Home Shield late last week and they told me to give it one more week.

Our water heater broke. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I'm paying $45 every month and every time I called them to repair something and if they have to replace it, I have a problem with them replacing it. I'm usually the one paying out of my pocket. They said something needed to be met before they can bring the hot water heater out. My homeowner's insurance put me and my family up in a hotel until they can replace it. And they would not replace that water heater unless I pay that $824. So, I had to go with all of that money to pay in order for them to come by as well as to fix it. So what do I need AHS for if they're not going to take care of things?
I got AHS so that if anything happens to any of my appliances, AHS would either fix it or replace it. And that's what they told me. So, when I called them, I'm under the impression that they're going to replace the hot water heater because I've been paying monthly installment. All I have to do is pay $125 for the initial visit. It turned out they would not honor that request of putting them in unless I pay that company $800. The same thing happened to me with my air conditioner. They came out here about two years ago because the air conditioner downstairs stopped getting cold. They told me that I had to pay $500 to see if it was working. This is my second experience with them of not honoring what they're saying they're going to do.
Their representatives were telling me, "Oh, it's in the contract in the writings." Who in the world look for the little writing in a contract, when you should go over these things when somebody gets a contract with you. I don't think homeowners can sit back and rely on AHS to do anything that is significant in their home. Don't count on it.

We had an air conditioning company come out to do the first air conditioner and I paid for refrigerant which was six pounds and they charged me $65. A week after, the second air conditioner went down. The other company came out and they needed to do something similar. They told me the smaller unit took more refrigerant than the bigger unit, and they wanted $109 a pound instead of $65 a pound. They also told me there was a hole in my coil but there wasn’t. The only thing that happened was that the refrigerant leaked out from where I had the gauges hooked up. So, I paid for the refrigerant myself and put it in myself. It was fine.
I paid the second company $125 to come out and lie to me about all these things that they upsold. So, I’m not happy with that and the upcharges for the things that they were saying needed to be done weren’t covered. But I didn’t see anywhere in the contract that says they weren’t covered. The refrigerant spelled out separately. I was supposed to pay $1300 out of pocket to be my charge not including the $125 service fee. They came out once but two separate peers and diagnoses. They didn’t charge me anything because I didn’t let them do it. American Home Shield got a report from them saying all these things that needed to be done to the AC, and I called American Home Shield and I said that was not true. I said I’m in the business and I know what it was. If the unit was going to be bad, I might as well have my home warranty take care of it.
The company totally jacked up the prices on everything and said that a lot of things were wrong. But my problem was when I found out about all the things that were going on, I asked the people at American Home Shield if I can have the other company come out as they were charging me $65 instead of $109. AHS said that they already sold the contract and they awarded it to the second company. I told them that I didn’t award it to them and I felt more comfortable with the first company that was here. They took care of the AC and it worked great. Also, I ’m not paying any crazy cost but AHS said they wouldn’t do it.
If a friend asks about AHS, I’d tell them to make sure they know what’s in the contract to know that if there is anything above and for any upcharges for the cost. The reason I got the warranty is because of the life expectancy of the water heater, the heat pumps, and all that stuff are right around at the time and if they could be replaced, so I don’t want to get stuck having to pay $15,000 to replace two heat pumps. I wanted them to do it, but if they can fix it, I’m okay with it. But for $1300, it was ridiculous. The interaction with them was okay but when I asked the person from Home Shield, she just kept saying the same thing. I also asked to speak to somebody else but she told me she can have them get in touch with me but they’re going to tell me the same thing. I hung up as it didn’t make any sense for me to pay twice the amount of money for one person one week after the next.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

AHS is a very good warranty. There's not much of a pressure. The fees are really good and I really like AHS overall. The only junky thing is getting the repair done quickly. AllPro came out within two weeks and they were great but I still don’t have my item. My refrigerator had to be replaced and it took a month, which is a long wait to not have a refrigerator. And yet, it came damaged. The repair is very slow. It's really tough too because AHS is not the only company that I have to go through. There are so many middlemen. It would also be really nice if I could call a repairman and ask them to see my appliances choose instead of using what AHS has. The repair people that they use for my area is a little bit limited. Other than that, I'm satisfied with AHS and I've recommended them.

I've always had a great experience with American Home Shield. I've been with them since I bought the house in 2012. My first year with them was a gift from my realtor and then I just continued on after that. I've always kept the same kind of coverage with the appliances and the systems because that makes good sense to me. I've called to file claims and their representatives were immediate and professional. They were right on it. Also, there was never any struggle for me to tell them what I needed and for them to grasp what I needed and to get me immediate service.
I made two calls on the same day. The first one was for the water heater that was leaking. The young man came and braced it, and he said it has to be replaced. We were leaving in April and it needed to be done, so he just took care of that. A week later, it was in. The next call was about a dishwasher that was not cleaning well. The racks were rusted and my dishes were getting rust marks on them which couldn't be washed off. They made the appointment the same day. I got a call and the appointment was made almost as soon as I was off the phone. The service guy came in a timely manner and did the evaluation. He made some phone calls and discovered that the racks could be replaced. He also said that the bottom spinner part wasn't working the way it should, so he was replacing that too. We received the parts this week and we have an appointment with them next week. With AHS, the service has been always quick and professional.

We had a plumbing issue in our house at Opal Ridge. We were getting an excessively high water bill. We weren't sure whether it was a leak in the system or if it was an issue with the toilets which we continually had to change the plungers. The contractors did what they needed to do. They pressure checked it because we were using a lot of water to change the float system out. It has been remedied now. I've had AHS for 20 years now and there have been other times where I had to arm wrestle them. I had to have an intervention where I said that, "This isn't right," and it went up to scale. I even had to write to their vice president once but I've always had a resolution at the end of the day. AHS is a good deal. Work with them.

I had two claims with AHS. There's positive and negative in both. The first one is regarding the water heater. They fixed the issue but my hot water became too hot and it had a short life so, I contacted them again. I kept contacting them through text and I realized I should have made a phone call instead of texting because apparently, communicating through text wasn't very effective. But the second time I followed up I said, "Hey, I need it fixed.” I had issues because my water heater only stood hot for 15 minutes and then became cold. Before it would become okay, but now it’s just freezing cold after 15 minutes.
15 minutes of warm water, that's all we got. I’m like,”Hey kids, you guys taking a bath now?” And that's it. In the morning I shower and then two hours later, my wife showers. We have to spread it out. The four of us can't take showers simultaneously within an hour. Obviously, there was another issue. I realized I should follow up with a phone call. The case was open, they contacted me and said, "Oh, yeah. We'll work it out.” But I wasn't satisfied with how they handled it with the follow-up test on the water heater.
Secondly, for the AC unit. January was a cold month and we started having a lot of problems with the heat. It’s March and I'm still having heating problems. I've been trying to figure out what the problem is. They came twice and apparently they're saying that my Nest is the problem. I'm watching the Nest and I'm still not satisfied. They didn't resolve the issue. The AC unit was blowing cold air, not hot air. I'm not satisfied with both situations. Our issues are causing our problems every day and I'm taking care of them on my own. I'm starting to reach out to a different furnace company to come and look at the furnace to get a second opinion. I can't trust AHS to take care of my issues.
I understand your concerns with issues you have experienced to have the water heater and AC service requests resolved. I would be glad to speak with you and address your concerns.

I bought the house and on the day that the owner was supposed to give me the keys and the remote, he couldn't make it. He helped himself to come on in and leave all the stuff on the counter after I take his possessions. He locked the door at that when he left so I felt it would be a good idea to have the locks switched out. I then called AHS to get the locks re-keyed. They said that they had a re-key function and I got another number. I've gotten the appointment and the tech called me back. He came out and re-did the locks. While he was there, it took about 20 minutes and he was great. I showed him the doors and he popped them all off. He went out to his truck, reset all the locks, and installed them. He tested everything with me before he left.

I have spoken with multiple customer service reps at AHS. My refund for my service fee was suppose to posted by 3/6/18. I have not received anything. Notes on my account should give the background needed. Just in case it doesn't. The company, Smithfield Plumbing, that replaced my water heater turned off the gas line in my laundry room, which supplies both my water heater and furnace. As soon as Smithfield left from the initial visit my furnace stopped working and I was not aware that they turned off my gas, using the valve in the house. So I called AHS to come fix my furnace and the company that came out, only had to turn the valve on. This was not my mistake! Smithfield should have left my house the way they found it. Smithfield's tech also admitted to me that it was a honest mistake by them and they misunderstood what AHS asked them.
AHS has agreed to give a refund, but it never posts in my account and every time I call it is a different story. Please play back the recordings. I just want my refund. And there is never supervisor available to speak with and I asked to be transferred to the escalations dept, which is never available as well!! This has been going on since 2/21/18.
I understand your frustration with the service you recently experienced to have your furnace repaired by the contractor that we dispatched to you. I would be glad to speak with you and clarify the refund that you have requested.
Thank you,

I really like the service from AHS. I had problems with our toilet so, I called their 1-800 number, and they were able to find somebody in the region and sent somebody out. It was so simple. Also, the contractor was awesome. Their office manager called me immediately, offered me a time of convenience for me and I chose one. They showed up and the service was prompt and very good, the bathroom has been awesome since the repair.
I pay $349 or something a year, but at least AHS contracts with reputable companies to come out and do anything in our home, and I like that. I don't want just any old Tom, Dick or Harry coming at my house. AHS gives me a peace of mind. When I bought my home, part of the closing package was a year policy with American Home Shield. I came home and the air was out, it was hot. I gave American Home Shield a call but the rep didn’t really let me tell her what happened. She was cutting me off a bit. So, I just answered her questions since she was not letting me talk. It was like she had a checklist in front of her and she was going down her checklist. She should have just been quiet, listened and let me explain what was going on. I was concerned but everything went smoothly after that.
AHS got me in touch with someone. The contractor that they sent was absolutely great and I wouldn't want anybody but that contractor to work on my air conditioner. I was able to talk to the contractor’s people before they came which was helpful. I didn't even know what brand of air conditioner I had, so when they got here, they came back the same afternoon that first day. They worked around my schedule to come back that day for me because another thing that the lady didn't know was I have asthma. I can't live in heat. When the techs came, they were really apologetic because they had to order the part and they had to come back on a Friday. I was able to survive with the fan because at night it was still cool. It was great that it happened in February and not August.
They were pretty quick to get everything and they looked at everything. Since I didn't get to tell the lady everything, when they got here I told them that I was not only having trouble with my fan, but the thermostat upstairs was turning itself off. They took a look at that and they said that it needed to be fixed too. They took care of everything in just a few days and everything is working really well now. They got the job done regardless of that lady.

We have American Home Shield for 20 years now and the only grunt we have is that they are a little quirky sometimes about what items they'll cover and how they'll cover them. For instance, we sold our house and when the inspector came in, he said that our dock board had a gaping hole. So, I called American Home Shield and they said that they'd cover that. But when their guy came out, he said they didn't cover poor installation. The thing is, I didn’t know what was good installation and what was not. That’s why I have American Home Shield. Other than that, the warranty is still a good value.
When the toilet tank was cracked and the faucet was leaking, I called their 800 number and the rep I talked to was good. The contractor who came out gave me a new faucet and it's working good now. My son is a plumber and he said that anytime you replace the faucet, you always replace the hose that goes from a faucet to the bottom of the toilet. But the contractor may have thought there was no reason to replace the hose, too. He also said that American Home Shield may not cover the tank because they don’t consider the crack as a result of normal wear and tear. Four days later, American Home Shield followed up with an email and said the same thing.
Hi, Terry. We definitely understand that all issues may not be covered under the policy and most times the homeowner is not aware of what is happening in order to cause the failure. Thank you for advising us of your concerns and we look forward to shielding your home for many years to come.

I put in a claim on a washer that was not working. AHS sent out a company that I had worked with before already. It is a really good little family-owned local company and I like the people who they're sending out. The tech said he could repair it, but he wasn't sure that American Home Shield would be willing to repair it for the cost. AHS decided that they could not reasonably repair the washer, and so they arranged for a replacement for me. I'm happy with the replacement.
They offered me a couple of replacement options, I asked a couple of questions, and I asked them if we could price a couple of other washers besides the ones that they offered. I decided to go with the one they offered. And within a week of the time that we decided that we were going to accept that washer, we had that washer in place. But there was a little hiccup in the middle where I asked a couple of questions and they didn't realize I was accepting the offer. That delayed it a couple of days but it was not a big deal.
The new washer has some features the old washer didn't. The only way I could've been happier would've been if they could've found one in the same color as the washer that we got rid of. I had to go with the white one because they weren't able to find a red one that would've been comparable, and I understand that and I can live with that. Overall, I was really pleased.

In the three times that I spoke to somebody over at American Home Shield, I had different experiences. One contractor really had little clue as to what was going on and how they would be able to help me. At the other end of the spectrum, one other person was very helpful so it kind of ran the gamut. In my latest appliance claim, I had kind of an interesting deal. AHS found a company to come out but the first company never even contacted me. A couple of times, I sent them an email and I left them a message but they never returned my calls. The second people that AHS assigned also never even bothered calling me back. It took to a third company to actually came out and they were pretty good.
But despite the fact that what they needed to get done got done, it seemed like the contractor was a little confused about how it all worked. They said that they didn't know if AHS would cover the claim and that they would have to call them. But a week and a half later, I hadn’t heard back so I had to call and leave a message asking if they were going to let them know what was going on with this somebody. They then got back to us. But if you have an issue you need to speak to somebody.
The technicians were excellent. In fact, if I have any more plumbing problems, I'm going to request if Mounts Plumbing and Construction can come again. Once we contacted them, they were on top of it. They're at the house immediately. And it was very late at night when this happened. Anyway, they came out and they were able to solve the immediate issue because my problem was the pump was filling up and it's about to flood my basement.
They got a new pump in there in absolutely no time at all and got it working so they were draining the water out. But then, they had to install some valves and things when they replaced those and so, they came back the next day just to make sure that they install the other one because the other one was going to take more time. The rep I dealt with was polite and courteous. She kept calling and telling me who was going to do the service. She stayed on track of it and I didn't have to worry about anything.
American Home Shield got somebody out here the next day, which was a Monday. The technician started working on it when he got in. He explained everything in writing to me and all the details. And he put some insulation around the suction lines and made sure it was set. He did a good job in taking care of it and got it going. We went almost a week with no AC and down here in Houston, we need it. The temperature in the state is normal so it wasn’t really hot, but there were a few days when it got warm. We had a leak in the wall and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. Working with their representative was a real pleasure. I called the claim on a weekend and the technician was here on a Tuesday. He was great and really informative. He got on it right away. He had to go get some parts that he didn't have with him because we got some unusual piping in the house. He apologized for that, but he was back within a couple of hours with the part and fixed it. Everything has been fine since the repair.
The only trouble was that afterwards, I got to thinking he should've done it a little different way. The leak occurred up where the pipe went through the piece of board at the top of the wall, and it leaked because it was rubbing. He just pulled the extra pipe down and put a coupling in there. He should have just cut a little bit of a hole in the ceiling and put an extra little piece of pipe. He talked about some sort of thing around the hole so that it wouldn't be rubbing against the wood, but he put on a brass coupling and he tried to position it in such a manner that it wouldn't rub on the wood, so he did a good job overall.
Having a warranty is very nice because I don't have to get involved with trying to find a contractor to come out and work at the house. So far, the three times I've used American Home Shield has been a real pleasure because they can get somebody. I got the warranty when I had a heart attack a few years ago. I figured that if my wife was here all by herself, all she would have to do is call up American Home Shield and they will answer everything for her and she wouldn't have to bother.

I called American Home Shield on a weekend and the message said that the wait time was higher than normal. I sat on hold for a while and then I decided to go online. But I found that it was absolutely useless because all it did was put somebody in the queue for some time at some point when someone eventually comes into the office on Monday. It was ridiculous since the current claim is a leaking pipe inside my walls. Waiting for someone to come around on a Monday when I found it on a Saturday wasn’t going to be the best way. I then got an automatic email from the system saying who’s been assigned to my claim. I called the company and was told that they couldn't work on it because the claim was not in their system. It was not showing as an emergency because I entered it online. And even though I entered it online, there's no option to say it's an emergency.
I then spent six hours, every hour, calling the other company and then calling back trying to get through American Home Shield. I was trying to get them to upgrade it to an emergency and also tried to get the guy who was on call for the service to come out. I finally got a call at 9:45 that Sunday evening from a technician in Maryland where I live to come out after I started the whole process at 3 o’clock. Unfortunately, I was able to diagnose that it’s something that would require banging through walls and getting through the plumbing, and the bathroom’s right next to my kids. I got three young kids, so I told them not come out. At that point, he wasn’t going to get to my house until 11 so we had to reschedule with that company.
My issue is not so much negative with American Home Shield, other than their inability to provide data online whether or not something is an emergency or not. And I would think that one would understand that when you request a plumbing service and identify that it’s a leaking pipe that theoretically should be considered an emergency. Common sense doesn’t work with the people answering the phones at American Home Shield. They want to make sure that they do as little as they needed to make sure that their claims are not covered. And my issue has been more with the supplier that they provided me. They are absolutely horrific and non-responsive.
Other than that, I had a water heater that made loud, clicking noise and was not heating enough. They did their job there, but they made no difference other than what I paid them to do. Overall, I would not recommend AHS. Every time I've called them about things in the past, they tried to figure out a way to get out of any claim possible that I begin to question if it's really worth having it if there’s no resulting benefit. After all, it would have cost me less to call the plumber myself and have them fix my water heater than having me go through American Home Shield.
I understand your issues with the hold time and inability to be updated online about your service requests. I would be glad to speak with you and address your experience to have the leaks repaired.

We’ve had American Home Shield for more than two years. Recently, one of our water pipes broke that feed one of the bathrooms but we were able to get that fixed temporarily. The contractor sent by AHS came the next morning, so we were able to turn back on the water. AHS has always been on top of things and submitting a claim to them was a piece of cake. I just call them and tell them what was going on and they give us a ballpark time and what day the contractor will be here. And then if they know they’re not going to be here, they try to call the evening before.
We figure that it will take them three days and a lot of times it was the same day or the next day. And it just blows our minds. It was the easiest insurance thing I've ever had. As far as the contractors go, they were very polite. They always clean the area they were working at and it was amazing. All the plumbing now works, and I'm happy with that. AHS has worked on a lot of our house, then they come in and take care of it. It made our lives so much easier and there were a lot less worry because all I got to do is make a phone call. They have been absolutely wonderful.
Thank you so much for your feedback Martha. We really appreciate you taking time to give you review of AHS.

The kitchen sink was stopped up so I requested assistance online from American Home Shield and everything went well. I received an email about who the technician would be. But it was a Saturday so I had to wait until Monday for them to come out. It sucked but it wasn't an emergency so that was within reason. The guy came on time and was very professional. He knew what he was doing and got right to it. He cleaned the sink out and gave me some tips on how to prevent the issue. He did a good job. I've had American Home Shield for many years, not just for this house but also the other house, and I recommend them always. I already bought AHS for my daughter’s new house and I've told people all the time not to go to other companies.

American Home Shield is like a one-stop-shop wherein if anything goes wrong, you know who to call. You just need to go on their website and find the particular problem you're having, and then you'll know that somebody's going to show up to try and fix the problem. I submitted a claim for my oil burner through the app which was fine. The oil burner had a circulator that kept turning it off. Every so often, I'd start feeling cold and when I'd go and look at the thermostat, it would go down and turn off for some reason. I'd have to go downstairs, tap the top of the box and then smack it, and all of a sudden, it would turn back on and I'd start feeling warmer.
The next day, somebody came and he was very nice. He asked me what was the problem, so I told him what I was experiencing. And then he tried a couple of things and mentioned it was the box that had an issue since that is what makes the motors turn on and off. He also gave me a bit of an explanation and told me that he was going to order the parts. He'd let me know if the parts would be on stock as well and I am still waiting.
I also had problems with my stove and placed a call with AHS. They were very responsive and was trying to help, but they kept sending this one company that was not fixing the problem back and forth. The contractors also showed up either without the parts or the wrong ones, and it was just ridiculous. And then AHS finally started sending somebody else. Still, being with AHS has been very valuable especially since moving into an older home, I'll never know what's going to come up.

I had some problems with the electrical ceiling lighting a couple of months ago. I tried to fix it but I couldn’t and I filed a claim to AHS by phone which I prefer doing versus online because I like talking to a real person. So AHS got hold of a contractor and he came over and fixed it. He was a good contractor and did everything he was supposed to do. The lights in the laundry room and the garage works. I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for years and other than the price has gone up a little I’m satisfied with them. Don’t hesitate to use them.

We have one claim going on right now with American Home Shield for an AC heater type unit. The heater was not working and I submitted the claim by phone. I usually like to call them. I know I can do it online, and I’ve done it online before, but this one was by the phone and the phone is better sometimes. The claims reps are always polite although I had a problem in the past when it seemed like the contractor was not really qualified and they kept on sending the same company over.
And by the 5th time, I said, “You know what, these people have barely even changed one unit.” They changed the cooler or the coolant and it wasn’t part of the heater of another unit. I said that it still wasn’t working so they left something wrong. After talking to a supervisor and calling so many times, they agreed to assign the job to another company that has worked in the past, and they were very professional and they came over and fixed the problem in one visit.
Some of the contractors that come out are a bit loosey-goosey but, at the end of the day, the experience has been good and some are excellent while some of them are just good. I was with American Home Shield years ago and overall, they usually tend to be polite but not always very knowledgeable, otherwise, they wouldn’t be coming six times to fix a problem and change part of the unit and still don’t get it right. It is a hit and miss and I like to call because I write down the name of the company when they know what they’re doing so when I call back, I don’t put it in the online because they probably will assign somebody. I keep all those records because going through bad guys is not good and I went through one that was really bad in addition to the one before, who cut the sheetrock down even though there was no need for that.
The other contractor said, “What in the world are you thinking?” I needed to put it back, patch it, do a little blasting and sand it off, and paint the wall. There was no problem inside the unit at all. They have contractors that are a bit amateur. AHS should try to get one of those people that are passionate because some of them are cookie cutters, and it is a room for improvement. The concept is not bad and there are some very good people in there that are passionate. We just need more of those in the company. Having American Home Shield is valuable, however, it’s going up in price every year, which didn’t happen when I had them on the other house. The warranty was only three years but it stayed the same price for three years. But as far as recommending them to somebody to buy a warranty for their house, I would absolutely recommend them.

Our last and only claim ever with American Home Shield was a huge disaster and is continuing to be. We had a faucet that cracked and needed to be replaced, so I called American Home Shield. They had somebody come out and before he did, he told me how it worked. But my daughter went and bought a faucet that they liked, and he said that he could replace the faucet using theirs or he could go buy it himself and then we pay him back.
And so, he called American Home Shield and they told him that they had allowed a certain amount of money for the replacement of it. He told us that he could use ours and that AHS had put it in their notes. He was saving himself time from having to go get it and money out of his pocket to begin with. He told me that if he bought it, he'd be charged extra because he had to use a credit card that they charged a surcharge on. So, he talked us into using the one that we had bought, which was fine. We didn't know any different.
So, he put it in. He was there less than 45 minutes then he heft. The place is in Lubbock, which is a couple of hours away. So, our daughter had to get off work, come home and be there with him, which was fine. He replaced it and said that they were allowing us $130 for the replacement, and that they would be mailing us a check. When we called American Home Shield, they said that that was wrong. He was not supposed to use ours. With lots of back and forth with them, they agreed with my husband to the $130 because that's what they had said they would do. They said that they would take off the $75 that we owed and send us a check for $55.
Over the last month, we've gotten a couple of bills from them that we're delinquent in our $75. I told my husband and gave him the copy of the bill, and he threw it in the trash because he said, "I talked to them. They're taking care of it. It's fine." But I found it and I put it back in his face. He called AHS and whoever he talked to said, "If that's what we agreed to, that's what we're going to do." They said that we had to have the receipt for the faucet to send to them before they were going to send us any money. And my daughter, which we found out yesterday when we went down there, didn't keep the receipt. When my husband talked to them the other day, they said that they would send to us an email address to send the receipt, and I haven't gotten a thing. So, I don't believe that the $75 has been taken off. Our coverage is up April 28th, and I will not renew with them.
I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the service fee overcharge and delay in service to receive a reimbursement I would be glad to follow up with you to resolve both issues.

I had American Home Shield come out to check my AC system and I submitted the claim online. I had to put my phone number in and it found my address, then I chose my request and submitted it immediately. A couple of minutes later I received a message saying that so and so company had been assigned. When the contractor came in I told him exactly I wanted to see if the air conditioning is going to work or not because it was winter. He looked into the system and he worked on the temperature settings. It was some kind of thermostat, which was supposed to be inside the system. He put it back and then showed me what it was supposed to do. He was good at explaining. Moreover, he found that everything was working fine.
I’ve been a customer with AHS for four years. There was a time I had to pay the contractor who came in through a check. Two times it did not reflect back and I started getting bills from American Home Shield saying that I had to pay the service fee to so and so company. I called back and told them that I already paid and I’m not sure why it was not reflecting. But now I can pay with my credit card and everything is automatic. I don't have to do any payments after the contract and after the work is done. Sometimes when I try to make a request online it says I can’t do it and I have to call in. And to call in to set up a request is a pain while doing it online is very smooth and fast.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for the garage door. My car was in the garage and I wished I had other means to get it open but it would not operate. It was a Friday night and I was on the phone for a long time. They kept giving me this crap about the high volume of calls. I was calling at 3:00 o'clock in the morning, I doubt they had a high volume. And that really ticked me off. Moreover, I never got a hold of a live person until Monday. Then the first person I spoke with ticked me off too. She said that I had to give her my credit card. I said that I was not giving her my credit card and that it was not in my agreement when I first signed up. She said that I was not going get the service then and she hung up on me.
But the second person I spoke to was very nice, professional and courteous. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but she asked to let her explain everything first. She told me what I had to do and that she would take care of the claim for me and have somebody out here. The contractor came and took care of everything. I called up American Home Shield to find out where to send the $100. The lady I spoke with said that she needed my name and phone. I said that all I wanted to know was where to send the money, but she would not tell me. I asked if she could think a little bit out of the box. All the information was up to date and I just talked to their people the other day. She said that she couldn't think out of the box and she asked if I was going to take care of her if she got fired. I asked her again to give me the address, but she would not do that. I finally let her go and I went online to look.
Up until that situation, it was okay with AHS. A couple of years ago, the heater wouldn't work. I called and said I needed heat and that my wife was very ill and we have flu in. They said that they understood and they would have somebody. They had someone call 7:00 o'clock in the morning. But I'm ready to leave AHS. My warranty ends April 17th and I have someone lined up. I'd recommend getting somebody else.

The freezer was also leaking from the back and it was causing our water not to come out of the refrigerator. The contractors sent by AHS were very good, on time, and very efficient. They also cleaned the mess that they made all up. Everything works fine now since the repair. We got cold water coming out of the refrigerator so that’s a plus. Everything was done very well and I couldn’t ask for anything better.

My washing machine wasn't working. I called to submit a claim to American Home Shield. I spoke with their representative who wanted to know what was broke and what exactly was the problem. Then, they had someone call me. I waited and I didn't get any phone calls, so I had to call. They had trouble finding someone in this area and finally got Sears to do it because there was not a whole lot in this area that would work on that certain type of washing machine. First, it was one contractor who came and he was very polite and very good. And then, he brought a person that they were training but he helped carry.
They took the machine apart and put a big thing in it. They even took stuff outside because I have a small lounge room. Also, they took the clutch outside, so they wouldn't make a mess. And the clutch had to be replaced. They had to order the part which is what they usually say. And then they came back and fixed it when the part came in. It took them a while to put the clutch in because they had to take the whole inner part of the drum out to get to the clutch. It was a big job. The only problem though was that it took a bit longer and I had to wait a lot longer than normal because there was some kind of mix up.
The washing machine went out in December and it didn't get fixed until January. And I had to call and re-order the service. Other than that, everything was fine. The guys were clean and efficient. The washing machine is working fine. Now, I have a problem with my icemaker and refrigerator. So, I'm hoping that I don't have the same delay that I had with my washing machine when I decide to call and get the appliances worked on. I would recommend AHS. I was with Home Shield for years before when we had a rental and it saved us a lot of money.

I had a dishwasher, and a refrigerator and ice maker fixed. The repairs went well. The repairman was knowledgeable, nice and cordial. I was aware that the refrigerant is not covered by the warranty. They covered the biggest part which was the coil but it was a surprise to me that they didn’t cover the other parts including the belt. I’ve had two service calls in the last 60 days and I paid $75 for each appointment and I’m going to have what they quoted me as non-covered items for $800 in order to do the repair. I could check and see in the warranty what’s covered and what’s not but I haven’t really had a chance to do that yet. But my experience was good.
The whole purpose of the warranty is to be able to reduce the cost of wear and tear in the home. At this point, I’m okay and happy with American Home Shield. However, once I figured out how much I’ve spent on a monthly basis in my current non-covered items, in my monthly fees and the actual appointment fees, I’ll get an idea if it makes sense for me to just self-insure or not. Because when you start spending a thousand or $2000 even with the warranty, then you may just want to take the chances based upon how old your house is. So as far as the appliance, that whole call went well and now, I’m just dealing with the HVAC request that's still in process.

AHS is the best home warranty company out there. I've tried others and I've been very disappointed with them. There's one out in New York that just wants your money and doesn't do any work. I've come back to American Home Shield. I like their preventative maintenance policy, their fast response and the contractors I deal with. I had an issue with my stove and the first contractor that AHS sent out said that everything needed to be changed. But AHS decided that he didn't know what he was talking about, so they sent another one out. The second guy who came looked very nice and like an expert but I was not happy with him. The first time he came he said, "These are the parts I want." Then he came back and installed them. However, I told him a day after that that the unit was still not repaired. He came out three more times to try and figure out what the problem was and three more times to install things. The problem was his priority was to keep the cost down.
Thankfully, the stove works now, though it took four months or so to have it fixed. With a professional repairman, this issue could have been resolved in one appointment. Also, I was with a different warranty company before and with them, if an appliance had one or two problematic issues, they would have changed the whole unit. AHS could be more generous instead of keeping the cost as low as possible because in the end, it'd cost them more to send a contractor out six times than replace the whole unit the first time he comes out.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that was experienced to have your stove repaired and the overall customer service experience. I am glad to hear that everything works now. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issues that have occurred.

The website that American Home Shield has is very user-friendly and submitting a claim online is a very easy and convenient process. I pretty much make the request for the service then it’s confirmed when a technician is contacted and I get that through email. Once the technician gets the information from American Home Shield, we're contacted directly. I also get an email to let me know who would contact me and I appreciate that I'm aware of the company.
For this last one where the garbage disposal was no longer working, it took a couple of days. I think it was because they were trying to find a technician who could work on the disposal whereas before if it was some other appliance, it could be same day or maybe later next day. This claim was the longest I’ve ever experienced but still, it wasn’t that long. Also, the technician was very professional and efficient. He found the problem, which was that something had gotten stuck in the garbage disposal, and he fixed it. So we were pleased. Now, the garbage disposal is working perfectly well.
We've been with American Home Shield for a while now and we've had our refrigerator and our dishwasher replaced. There were also other items like our washer machine which was repaired and recently our dryer too. There has not been any appliance listed in our plan or any need that we’ve had that American Home Shield has not either repaired or replaced with the exception of one. For the old fan, I was asked to go buy one and have it installed then American Home Shield would reimburse. I was little disappointed in that. But with everything else, we've been very pleased. I can't ask for a better company and I've always bragged about American Home Shield.

Service appointments have been made, parts have been ordered/reordered new and refurbished, service contractors have documented several times a new Washer replacement is needed, AHS agents denying my many requests to speak with a Manager, Parts Department unable to locate/verify where the part(s) were sent, AHS agents not knowing what to say or do therefore promising me someone would contact me regarding the new Washer replacement… which you can clearly gather hasn’t happened!!
This is a formal complaint against AHS for the above mentioned reasons. AHS has provided a dis-service and a lack proper resolution. That was his fault so he had to go away and come back a couple of days later. The washing machine is located in a closet in the bathroom so it's tough enough just getting one guy and nevermind two. But the contractor pretty much did it by himself. He then spent a few minutes telling us what it was about then he left. We haven't had any problem since. So, it wasn't a completely seamless thing. The air conditioner was an older unit and it took a long time to get fixed. We had problems and I must have had someone come out fix it seven times. But eventually, it got fixed. With the heat, me being disabled and my wife having diabetes, I was hoping that would have gotten the process done with the air conditioner a lot sooner. But it took over a month to get that squared away.
The other things that I had done, I had a good experience with. I had an electrical issue and they got it resolved. I also had a refrigerator that got fixed. Also, the reps when I called were very courteous and they were knowledgeable. They were as helpful as they could be but they didn't have time to get anything done. However, I was totally disgusted because we needed some hot water heater. I made the claim to AHS on the phone and I had to wait over an hour to get through. Also, it took three days for the first repair people to come. When the guy came out he said, "We're not able to fix it because it doesn't meet the standard." The guy didn't know what he was doing. Then I had to follow up because we didn't know if they were going to replace the heater or not. Then I had to call again. The reps were very helpful even though it took them a while to get to the phone. Then they sent the guy out immediately.
When the guy came out the second time, he told us that they couldn’t do it because the unit was too small based on the capacity of the house. The thing was, it’s a big house but there were only two of us in there. And there was only one shower being used at the time. When the hot water heater was installed, it met their requirements but I guess the requirements have been changed or updated since then so they said it didn't qualify. It took two weeks to get it resolved. And it was during the winter which was very cold so I was extremely upset with the whole transaction. The company was horrible and I told AHS that that provider needs to be removed.

Their guy came out and told me what was wrong. He fixed it and there was no extra charge.

Our water heater just stopped working and so I reached out to American Home Shield online and scheduled a repair. It was a good experience as someone could come in the next day. The contractor was very prompt to respond and then he called when he was on his way. He was very professional. Since the service, the water heater's been perfect. And with that, I would wholeheartedly recommend American Home Shield. It's definitely better to sign up for the warranty so when something breaks, it would be an easier and less expensive situation.

I have a claim with American Home Shield right now and I am hoping that they are going to come out soon. I have had a couple of plumbing problems. All the pipes were draining very slowly and it had been ongoing but I just had not made the claim right away. When I first moved in, I made a claim and the plumber snaked some of them out. Then they came out and did a couple more. Now, we have a leak from one of the pipes. The process of submitting a claim could not be easier. I go online, pick my issues, I get an immediate email, and the next business day, AHS calls me or whoever the contractor is going to come.
The contractors have always been very friendly. The first time AHS sent somebody out, it was a different plumbing company and he was okay. He didn’t speak great English. Since then, AHS went with a different plumbing company and the people that came with that company were really wonderful. The contractors didn’t leave until I was satisfied that the water was slowing. I'm very satisfied and I've even recommended AHS to my friends and family.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield recently for my garbage disposal unit. I did this online and navigating their website was fine. It was a claim over the weekend, but I was told first thing in the morning that the contractor was sick, so I got another one on Thursday. The contractor that came out was very good and prompt, and he fixed the garbage disposal unit. We are old and, although we can do the repair, we don't want to do it ourselves and we just want somebody to come and fix the problem. Our recent claim was good and American Home Shield has been fine. On the other hand, when I did the contract, I didn’t realize that a lot of the stuff are not covered.

My heat was not kicking on so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. The contractor explained everything and when he went to pull the motor out, he said it needed a new fan motor. The seal was broken in pieces and he said that it wasn’t safe because the seal keeps the carbon monoxide coming in. So I had to go without a heater for a couple more days while they ordered the part. It took them about three days to complete the work. The contractor did a really good job. However, I just signed up with another company and it had to do with the price.

Three months ago the individual that American Home Shield sent to fix the pipe that was leaking had cut a hole in my ceiling. He called it in so that somebody can come out and fix the ceiling. Each time I call AHS says that they have to contact the company that created the hole and get measurements from them. I told them that I can measure it for them but they said no and that they have to get it from the person that made the hole. They said that each time that they’ve tried to call nobody has called them back and that they would call me back as soon as they heard. I’ve waited a week and then I called back and I’ve waited another couple weeks and I’ve called back. I have to call back again for about the fifth time. There’s a big square in my ceiling that still hasn’t been repaired.
Up until this point though AHS has been great. Registering and creating a work order on their website has been fine and the people that have responded to actually do the work has been fine. They’ve come out, been very friendly and done the work. I’ve had great experiences. However, when there is something out of the ordinary that AHS has to deal with there’s no real follow through with recontacting me and making sure that this is happening.

We had several appliances that needed attention. The microwave was skipping out like a crazy thing. It works some of the time and made crazy noises the rest of the time. It seemed unsafe. We called American Home Shield and it got resolved. And, we figured, since they were coming out, we'd have them go and take a look at the dishwasher that doesn’t clean dishes and the ice maker that doesn’t make ice. At the end of all of that, it was all fixed and we’re very happy.
But any phone dealings with AHS require that you just quit your job and make a career out of being on hold. It’s not the phone people’s fault though. It’s a staffing issue and a huge frustration. I know that you can see a lot of this online, but often times, there are things that need to be discussed that can’t be addressed online so I’m generally a phone call person. I’m very unhappy with what it takes to reach somebody by phone. Other than that, I’m very pleased with the service. The technician was excellent and the work got done. Moreover, he was a good communicator. AHS is a smart service to take advantage of.

American Home Shield has sent service people out to do what needed to be done to repair things and I've been happy with that. They had a problem with my heating issue one time and that was taken care of. They also took care of the microwave issue we've had. This time we have a $3,000 LG refrigerator-freezer combination that we purchased last year and just before the warranty expired, the refrigerator stopped working and would not freeze. We wound up having to take all our meat and other stuff out. We lost a good portion of that because we didn't have another refrigerator at the time.
We initially went to Lowe's and they had a 30-day warranty on new products. We didn't get the extended warranty through them because we've never had a problem with a refrigerator. They sent people to repair it, changed parts out and conferred back and forth with LG. Then I was told that LG was no longer going to pay for the service cost. The first charge was $200 and I paid that, but the refrigerator wasn't still fixed. So I contacted Home Shield because that's what they're for.
The people from Home Shield are easy to get ahold of and they keep their appointment. The contractors came out right away in a week or two at the most. They were also are easy to work with. However, although the techs who were sent to work on the refrigerator have been working hard and spent hours on it, they couldn't get it fixed. Apparently, they went through the same system the people went before. The last time the guy was out, he came out to see if the fix he had done before was going to allow the refrigerant to go from the top of the refrigerator. And by now, the box up top is cool but we can't use it because there's no freezer working. We can't put or store any meat in it and the ice maker doesn’t work. It's so frustrating as we've been dealing with this for seven months.
The techs are doing the best they can, but one of them told me that they're limited by what they can do because it's a sealed system and they have to get approval to go into the system to see whatever the next step is. So I'm waiting now for them to come out and to tell me what's going to happen next. I'm glad that Home Shield is around.

I used to be with another company where sometimes I have to call and nag.
Recently, I submitted a claim for my washing machine. Its float valve, which is connected to a small electrical transmitter, failed, causing the machine to send a false signal that it had already spun and drained water even though water was still built up in the bottom of the washing machine. The contractor was able to replace that so the cycle would continue and the machine could properly spin and drain. It took him two times to get it right but he got it fixed and it's working great now.
I also submitted a claim for the vent hood over the kitchen stove. One of the lights wasn’t working on it anymore. The light bulb has a resistor somewhere and the contractor they sent had difficulty accessing it to determine the problem. But once he did, he diagnosed that the problem was with some sort of a capacitor up in the neck of the system. He needs a part to fix it but he said it would be better to replace the whole unit because he couldn’t find the manufacturer of the model. This issue has been lingering for three months now and hopefully we’ll come to a resolution. I keep calling and the guy came back out and said that they’re still looking for the part and they’re not having much success with it.
I am happy that we were able to handle your appliance needs Scott. Thank you so much for taking time to post your review. Have an amazing week.

Our microwave wasn't working and it would not heat anything up. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and navigating through it was pretty good. The contractor took a week to get here. I was without a microwave for six weeks. But when the technician arrived our interaction was okay. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly and let me know that he felt certain that the microwave was not going to be repaired and that it would be a replacement. He told me we would have to go through the process and we did. I find the process of trying to get a hold of someone at American Home Shield to be wildly frustrating. I spent days on hold with them, over the course of my time with them, especially with the microwave.
One time I called and the hold time was greater than three hours. When we had an air conditioner issue with them six months ago, I had a hold time of six hours and that was unacceptable. I understand they're trying to streamline the claims process and I do that always online. This is only when I'm calling when I have an issue or a question, like when the gentleman left with the microwave he didn't leave me with any sense of what I needed to do, the next step was and the timeline. So I was trying to call somebody to get a sense of that and I was on hold for three hours. And recently, I was on hold for two hours and then the phone line hung up on me. It happened on at least three occasions.
We've had the same warranty since we moved in almost 6 years ago. This is the first year we will not be renewing our warranty because I feel like there's been a precipitous decline in customer service and the quality of the contractors that get sent out to the home. The air conditioner contractor that came out to my home broke my disappearing stair wheel and then blamed it on me. We couldn't get anybody from American Home Shield and nobody from the contractor's company that came out would call my husband back. It was a terrible experience.

Our water heater had problems where there were periods of time where there was no hot water or we would have hot water for as long as we took time to wash the dishes, and that was it. So we had to wait to shower in between. I submitted the claim online via the AHS portal and it was pretty easy navigating through it. Two contractors had to come so, the claim took longer. It was three weeks since I initiated the claim.
My husband liked the first contractor. He was very knowledgeable and explained to us that the water heater was gone and needed to be replaced. He advised my husband that somebody would call to schedule an appointment. I got phone calls, but I didn't know they were from a different company. There was some confusion with that. We're still having issues with the water heater and somebody would be coming today between 10:00 to 12:00.
But I would have liked to receive a call from AHS to let us know that the previous contractor that came to view our water heater was not going to fix it. I felt clueless as to what was going on. I had to personally call in and find out what happened. Other than that, it is very valuable that we have a home warranty. We are paying more upfront, but when something breaks, it's less out of pocket from we normally would have to pay. Besides that little bump on the road, which is something that can be fixed, we like AHS. It was our first time buying a house so, expense wise, the home warranty is reliable. I and my husband are considering if we can extend the contract before it expires.

And so, someone came out and replaced some kind of heating element. But that didn't work, so they came out again and replaced a control panel. Now, it's doing it again. But the claim for the tub, I never saw the contractor. I was just told I would get a phone call 30 minutes before they came but I never got one. When he came, we had painters at the house and they were the ones who showed the contractor the tub. He then told a painter I needed to order a part and that he would contact me when the part came in. Our painter relayed that to me.
That particular claim has still not been fixed. Other than that, everything has been great. AHS has been very easy to deal with. Every time I call, I talk to somebody very quickly and they’ve always helped me. I really appreciate how easy it is to talk to them when I need something. It has also been very easy to submit a request online. The only thing is I still have not heard back from that company telling me that they've got the part and that they're coming to put it in. And that’s been probably four weeks. Also, I tried to go in the AHS site to change the phone number and the email to mine, but I could not figure out a way to do that. So I knew there was more of a problem than just that because that was something that I was doing myself.
So the last time I called AHS, I told them not to send back the same company because they haven't done anything the last three times. I had an issue back in December and I’m still waiting to hear when I’m gonna get my money back. I had requested service for electricity from American Home Shield and when I went to the website, they billed me $75 in order to get that service. I scheduled with an electric company but it was gonna take about two weeks and in the interim, we figured out the issue. I didn’t need the service anymore so I canceled the appointment with the provider. But for some reason, there was a miscommunication in that the provider said that somebody came out to my house.
In addition to that, when I try to contact American Home Shield, I can't get a hold of them sometimes. It takes a long time for them to answer on the customer service line. When I was trying to contact them back in December, I had to hang up at one point because I was on hold for almost 40 minutes. That has happened on a couple of occasions too. I called the corporate office number but they just said to try back, that they understand and that they had gotten those complaints before. I tried calling again and I was on hold for a long time. Eventually, I was able to speak to someone. But there was a lot of frustration in that.
We also recently used American Home Shield for another issue. My pool pump died and they replaced it for free. But the platform that the pump was on was not up to code and they fixed that as well, for which I had to pay an extra amount and it was expensive. But it needed to be done for the pump to work correctly and they were transparent about what it would cost me. Everything worked out fine and overall, the things that they’ve covered are certainly worthwhile to consider having coverage on. I have a claim for my microwave with American Home Shield that has been going on since November. It spins and since November, we’ve been ordering parts and the contractors replaced various parts on the microwave for four months and they spent more time troubleshooting it to try to figure out what was wrong with it, but it still doesn’t work. Also, part of the convection oven stopped working and it didn’t spin. My oven and my microwave were out of commission through all of the holidays and the oven is finally fixed after two and a half months.
I submitted the claim over the phone and American Home Shield is a pain in the neck to call. Every time I call, even if I was calling them back for the fourth time, I have to go through my name, address, telephone number, email ID, etc. every single time. The people are very nice most of the time but the communication between them and their vendors is not very great. The vendors would come out but the problem wasn’t fixed and I wouldn't hear anything. After ten days, I called American Home Shield. And then, they called the vendor who then called and came back out with a part. It took months to fix a problem so my experience with AHS right now is not that great. I'm not very impressed with them.
American Home Shield's processes seem to have open loops if everything does not go as planned so they’ll be sitting there waiting with no feedback. I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for 17 years. And in the beginning, they were wonderful and I have been a good advocate and had recommended them to lots of people. But they’ve gone downhill and it has been horrible to try to get ahold of them by phone. Sometimes I have to wait over an hour. I've been angry enough to wait over an hour because I've been out of service since Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year and I didn’t have an oven or a microwave, and I have not been satisfied at all.

Then, the contractor called me the next day which was surprising, because normally they don’t come over the next day. But he said that he got an appointment that cancelled and he was in my neighborhood. I was able to get off of work and head over there, then he fixed everything. I’m hiring him again to do my whole electric system for my basement.
Hi, Blake. We are so pleased to hear that you were so impressed with the electrician that we dispatched to your home. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience.

They were very professional and they got the job done. Getting the AHS service saved me a lot of money.

I've always gotten prompt service from American Home Shield with no issues. When I told them my heat wasn’t working, they sent somebody out within a very reasonable amount of time. The first contractor that came out was very nice but they didn’t work on my particular unit so I had to contact American Home Shield again. They called around and found someone in my area who services that unit. A wire was placed too close to something and that was causing it to short out so the technician had to move a wire. He said that he sees that a lot and it's not uncommon. Apparently, he is a guru with that system so he knew what he was looking for and fixed it within 30 minutes.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for our refrigerator and the guy that came out was really nice. He had an issue with the part but he had it fixed. The shower was a little different story though. We had someone come out and he basically said that he could not find the part so AHS had to dispatch a different company. They could not find the part either so they said that we might have to have a cashout. Overall, it was fine but I have not heard back on the last one. I filed my claims online and the website worked pretty well. Navigating it was pretty clear. Also, usually the contractors are pleasant and they always leave by my own time.

My recent claim was related to a furnace not working. The experience I had when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield was pretty easy. I called them and it gets assigned to a company and they’ll call me in two days. But the contractor was booked out for a week. So, I called them back to American Home Shield and asked AHS to have it reassigned back out to another company. I lost a day going through that process. The contractor sent by AHS was fantastic. He was super professional, called ahead, showed up on time, explained to me what was going on and was just courteous. It was a really good experience with the contractor.
The furnace is outstanding since it was repaired. The contractor also noticed another issue with the vent for fresh air being blocked off by the previous owner and explained how it was not good for the quality of the air in the house. The repair was done over the winter so it was necessary to have heat in the house to be livable. I would recommend American Home Shield for someone buying a home or selling a home and wanted to have a home warranty service. And if a home is new, you’re likely to have the need for a home warranty.
Hello, Timothy. You were right to call and ask for a different company due to scheduling delays. Thanks for letting us know our contractor did complete the repairs and that the unit is working even better than before.

On New Year’s Eve, I ran into a problem when my furnace went out. It was 30 degrees in my house and I had company. And the concern I had with American Home Shield was that there was no way to speak to a live human being directly to get help especially when it was the holiday time. I called the actual phone number and I was on hold for an hour and 15 minutes. It said somebody will get to me but there was high volume. Then, somebody picked up the phone and then hung up. I didn’t know exactly what to do so I ended up having to call a company and it cost me $6,000 to repair my furnace. I tried calling AHS again to see if I can get through and find a different way to do the problem versus paying out six grand.
The second time I called was the customer service number and I also tried every phone number I could find. The same problem happened and I was too tired to do it. I even told the service guy that I should go to my home warranty and he asked me if I wanted to hold everything. But it was freezing in my house and I didn’t have a choice. It was an ordeal and I didn’t even know if I would be able to put in a claim to get reimbursed some of that. I can't fault AHS for everything but they need to have a customer service line where I can speak to somebody instead of being rerouted back to the internet every single time.
Also, I’ve had two service calls on my refrigerator and AHS can't do anything without paying $75 upfront. One of the blades of the ice maker broke, so on the first service call, I asked to check everything but the technician basically walked in the door, took the serial number, walked back out and then sent me the part. He was a nice man but I paid $75 for him to do that. Then the computer part and the damper went out which is what my recent call was. I had to pay another $75 on the same refrigerator to have them come do it again.

American Home Shield has a nice UI and UX as far as submitting requests online. But it's very difficult to get a hold of anybody. They don't pick up the phone and their customer service is poor. I’ve also consistently updated my profile online to remove my phone number from my account entirely and to add my wife's phone number. I'm not the one who coordinates any work that needs to be done and my number is nowhere on my profile but they consistently provide my phone number to the vendors that they dispatch. And then, it's hit or miss when it comes to their vendors.
One time last year, we had an issue with our master bathroom sink and the guy who came out said that he couldn’t fix it and that we needed an entirely new sink. I had to go and find out what the make and the model is to see if we can get a sink. Then I reached out to him but he never reached back out to me. So I called that vendor and they didn't have any documentation of that technician's findings. They sent a new technician out and it turned out that I didn't need a whole new sink. They just needed to make a very minor repair. But outside of that, all my other experiences with American Home Shield have been positive.

When I submitted a claim for the washing machine to American Home Shield, I was surprised that it went so well over the phone. The person who came out was good. He was from Williams Appliance Repair and he already came out before because we had one of American Home Shield's contractors didn’t do anything. Our top load machine had a lid, and the lid was supposed to stay up and it’s always supposed to stay up until you pull it down because it was very heavy and it could break your fingers if you hit on them. All the previous contractor did was pull the machine out a little bit from the wall and then told me that it was working okay now. I told him that it was not the way it's supposed to be.
I called again back the contractor and he said that it was a maintenance problem. But everything with the washing machine is a maintenance problem when you get right down to it. It's used and my wife doesn’t use it any more than anybody else does. It was just the two of us. So I called American Home Shield and talked to some department that was looking into it. I told them I didn't want the same company and guy again because he didn’t do anything and he acted as though it was just a routine call for him to get his contractor’s fee and that was the end of it.
Then the next thing I knew, Michelle from Williams Appliance called and told me they can be out Friday if that was okay with me. She was very good and quick. Then David came out, and my wife told him that the machine goes so far and it won’t turn on anymore. David came back after doing another job and he told us what we should be doing. They were very good and they followed through. The machine was about 14 years old so it's not a new machine. So far, we haven't had any problems with it since the repair.
But the biggest problem I had with American Home Shield over the four years was the contractors. They have some good ones and some that aren’t so good. We had a light fixture in the kitchen. It was a fan with lights under it, and one of the lights was out. We would get a bulb back in there for a few minutes but then it would go out again. So we called American Home Shield and they sent a guy out. He looked at it and told me that I have to get a whole new fan and he can't do a whole one like that. So we looked around but couldn’t find anything that was as nice as the one we had, so we didn’t do anything. Then we had another time that we had the same issue and they came out and said the same thing.
Meanwhile, A fella from across the street is an ex-contractor and he was doing some work on his house. My wife told me to ask him if his electrician was there since we’d like to just ask him a question. The ex-contractor came over and looked at the fan. He said it will take 10 minutes to fix it. He then told me that once his guy gets done, he will tell him to come across the street. He did come over and truly, it was about 10 minutes and $5.
We had to pay the contractor sent out by American Home Shield, which was fine, but I can’t believe that these guys wanted me to get a whole new fan for $400 and the guy sent by the fella across the street fixed the issue. I told American Home that sometimes the guys they sent either didn’t want to do the work or something else was there. They asked how much they charged me and I said $80. Then they sent me a check for $80. We also had these couple of calls for the swimming pool. One of the motors went out and the people came out and said they were going to pay for a used machine. They added that if I wanted a new one, I can pay them another $100 and they will put a brand-new one in. So I did that and it worked out alright.

I had a hard time with some of the people sent out by American Home Shield. While there had been some contractors who were really nice and very pleasant, for the most part, the guys that were coming out weren’t courteous to people and their needs. One time, they sent out a plumber who never finished my sink. He even argued with replacing a faucet on the side of my house and said it wasn’t under the contract. Then, when he called American Home Shield, he found out that it was under my contract because it was part of the slab of my house. He was rude and obnoxious, too. I also had someone come and pull my dishwasher out to repair it. He ripped my linoleum and I have to get that fixed.
I filed another claim for my stove and the person from Sears that was sent out said that there was a problem with the control panel. But he put the wrong control panel in so, the front burner on my stove is still not fixed right. I called the him back to tell him that my oven was still not working. He asked me to call American Home Shield and see if I needed a new work order. AHS then gave me a new work order with a new person and that person tried to replace the same parts that the previous tech had just replaced. But the wiring in the back of the stove melted. My two older boys were here when the gentleman came out and looked at the oven. He took the back-panel wall and showed them where the wires were burnt. So, now, I don’t know what they’re going to do about the stove.
AHS gave me a discount on one month's payment since the repair is taking time, but I've been buying takeout food for my family when this was going on and that is costing me more money than if I paid somebody outright to fix it. AHS gave me the same discount when there was one group they sent out of Kinston that had my microwave for two months. They claimed they were waiting for parts but I wound up calling American Home Shield back to get it straightened out. Similarly, when I filed a claim for my washer, it took a while before they got the parts to fix it. So, I had to do the laundry at the laundromat for a month. But the person they sent out to fix my washer and dryer was the sweetest gentleman. He had it fixed in no time and I had no headaches with him.
Recently, I had an AC claim and four different people kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the system, that it was something I was doing. My son had been trying to tell them that the drain pan was rusting out but they did nothing. The last technician that AHS sent took some time to figure out what was causing the problem. In the meantime, it damaged my ceiling in my smallest bedroom in the house and I was told that American Home Shield doesn't cover the damages. The tech got to repair the AC, though, and it's okay now. All in all, if someone would ask me about American Home Shield, I'd tell them that they need to make sure that AHS sends somebody reputable out. They should also call them back within days because otherwise, stuff wouldn't get done.
I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues you have experienced to have your stove repaired and address the issues that occurred with your AC system.

I want to compliment American Home Shield on the person who they sent out for my dryer. I like his mannerisms and I was so happy to see someone who was so professional. My dryer had some limps in it and I had gotten it real hot, and I was afraid to use it. It turned out that there was nothing wrong with it. I also asked the young man for a card and then I recommended his company to my neighbor a week later.
Before that, I have had some issues with American Home Shield and there were 3 times I wasn’t too pleased. When my water heater went out, I have to be without it for over a week before a contractor even came out. I was very frustrated with them because it seemed like it wasn’t such a big deal to them, but it really was to me because we have no hot water to bath. Then, there was another occasion where I went ahead and paid for whatever needed to be repaired because I didn’t like the waiting. We call American Home Shield, then they call someone and then I have to wait for that someone to call me. That can be up to three days before they get to me and I don’t like that process. Also, one of my dearest friends who has a big business up in Kansas, has a townhouse, and a home in San Antonio, also canceled the contract with American Home Shield last year because of the waiting. They’re not fast enough with their service.
Still, I have to keep American Home Shield's service because my husband and I are both senior citizens and we live on our pensions, and I don’t have a lot of money if some big appliance goes out. Having American Home Shield is necessary because there are so many appliances in a home that can go wrong. There's a $60 monthly fee but the warranty covers everything. I would recommend them but they need to have better customer service.

The contractor also said that my bathroom fans were so old that the manufacturers didn’t make them anymore. He checked at the mobile home repair place and he said that the fans weren’t repairable.
My bathroom fans still don't work and I need them replaced or fixed, but nothing has come upon that. I have a remote in the fans and the contractor said that they were going to fix something, but AHS hasn't followed through on my claim. I’d tell people that AHS does good work but they should expect a long wait and the contractors might not finish the job.

My home has some old wiring and there was some surcharge so I had some electrical issues. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the process was smooth and easy. The rep asked me what the issue was and said that she'll talk to a technician and schedule a time, then gave the name of the company." The contractor came and he found that nothing was broken. It only took him half an hour and the problem was solved. The only part I don’t understand is the $75 fee and I can't figure out how to pay it. I went online but there's nothing that said "due amount". The way I understood it is that, when the technician comes to assess, I have to pay $75 and then they will schedule. Also, the things they do and don't cover is confusing. I don't know how they define mechanical failure.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. Submitting a claim with them is easy and their contractors are very friendly. They came out a couple of times for my dishwasher that had some issues--it wasn't cutting on once you close the door, the little door that pops out in the soap dispenser wasn't working, and it was leaking. They had a guy come out and on the third service call, the dishwasher got fixed. Then recently, a guy came out for my pool pump and it was a quick fix. He replaced the pump and we were back in action in less than 30 minutes. A couple of their contractors have also been in my house more than once. I work for the largest Chevrolet dealer in the South East of Florida, so I run across these guys sometimes when they bring their vehicles in for service and some of them remember me.
I recommend AHS to all my friends. I tell them how easy and affordable it is, and they should all get it. However, AHS should extend referral fees to their customers. If the customers refer somebody, we should get $25 or have that off the bill. I have referred a friend who now has it, even though she didn't get all the stuff that she should. Being a single mom and struggling, she only got a partial program because the deductible was too much. And I told her she just really needed it. Sure enough, she had an appliance go out and she didn't have coverage. I told her that if she had that covered, she would just pay $75 and they would come out to fix it. And when they couldn't fix it, they would replace it with a new one which exactly what they did to my refrigerator. Its parts were too old and they couldn't fix it, so I got a brand new one.

I purchased some new appliances for the kitchen and paid out of pocket for them. I paid for a dishwasher, an oven and a microwave. When the guy for the dishwasher from Best Buy came over, he installed the dishwasher and then told me that it wasn’t working. When I contacted Best Buy and asked them what the problem was because my previous dishwasher was working, they told me that I had to get an electrician. I then contacted American Home Shield and they came out. They looked at the electrical problem and the guy said that Best Buy had tripped the circuit when they installed the dishwasher and it was Best Buy's fault. So Best Buy reimbursed me the $100 I had to pay to American Home Shield. They acknowledged that it was their fault that they tripped the system when they installed the dishwasher.
The reps at American Home Shield have been great and I've been very impressed. I wasn’t going to use American Home Shield at first, but somebody highly recommended them and so I took my chances. So far, they've been good and the electrical guy was fantastic. I have discovered that I'm better off using the app on my phone to put a request in. Otherwise, if I call on the phone, I might as well just forget because the wait time is horrendous. But other than that, I am very happy and very satisfied with American Home Shield.

My washing machine had an issue. I called American Home Shield and they set up an appointment for a repair person to come out. The contractor came out and assessed the situation, then the parts were ordered. We had to wait for the parts but that's understandable. The technician was very professional and clean, and he got here when he said he was going to. But he had to come out twice. The first time he came, he fixed a part of problem, but it wasn't completely fixed. I had to call the contractor back and the same technician came back out and repaired the problem.
The technician was great, the contractor did an awesome job, and AHS handled my claim well. My washing machine has run perfectly since the repair. My father-in-law wanted to know how my transaction with AHS turned out because he was trying to decide whether or not he was going to purchase an AHS warranty for his home. With the service that I got from AHS, I'm sure he's going to be signing up with them as well.

We made a claim at American Home Shield for the pool pumps which we submitted online and that went well. The contractors showed up and identified the problem. They said that we needed to have the pump replaced because it was not repairable. They came back and replaced it the same day. Everything is working fine now. They just need to improve the price.

There was a leak in my washing machine and I went online to submit a claim. Three people came, where the first two people worked with the same problem. But the last person who came worked fast and did a good job. He was nice and solved the problem which was all that I needed. I'm happy for what he did.
