I have been using American Home Shield for 20 years now and the contract is logical and easy to understand. We started with filing the claims online now and the website works fine. But when we've done it over the phone, the reps were fine too. They have a very bad administrative group within the organization though. I have sold the property and I'm trying to get them to cancel the policy and stop taking money out. But it's just awful. It came to a point where we had to get angry. That was ridiculous. But, over the years, AHS saved me money and I would tell my friends to consider the company.

A leak showed up one day and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. The rep was very helpful and responsive, and my interaction with the contractor went very well. The plumber paid attention, listened to what I had to say, gave me some feedback, and we went from there. I have really enjoyed having the service available to me. It’s a good service and I will continue to have it. I’ve used American Home Shield several times and it’s worth what I put into it. I told a few people about American Home Shield and I recommend other people who have houses to look into it.

I have three different accounts with American Home Shield. My personal home and two rent houses. One of my houses had a plumbing issue. It leaks underneath the sink and needed some replacement on some faucets. And a couple of months earlier it needed a new water heater, so AHS handled both of those. Submitting a claim was easy. I go online, submit it and the website pulls up all three different accounts. I select which account and it gets assigned the same day and the vendor calls me the next day to make arrangements. That process was all within 24 hours.
I've had interactions with every contractor. For the most part, they've been professional and on time. The contractor I had with my garage had to come back three times and two of those times fell underneath the same $100 deductible. One time, my pool pump in my personal house was rattling and going out. I had to listen to it scream for another four months. It made a lot of noise and my neighbors were complaining. But AHS wouldn't fix it until it completely broke. That aggravated me because it was clearly going out and I had to wait until it completely broke before I could get it fixed. Other than that, American Home Shield's quality of work has been high. They fix the issue and get on out, they don't waste any time.

When scheduling an appointment, you really can't get anything done on the internet and you have to talk to somebody. Sometimes, I would be on hold for two hours trying to schedule somebody or if I had a question about the contractors coming out, especially if I call after four. And then if I try to call first thing in the morning, it doesn't open until seven o'clock my time. The claims process took a long time to get done just because of all the phone calls I had to make.
When my stove went out, the process took probably at least two months from the initial time it started acting up. The contractor came out in a week and he said it was the motherboard. Another week later, he came back and got the motherboard and they were gonna rebuild it. It took another three weeks for it to come back and then they put it in and it didn't work. Then it took another week to get a new stove authorized then they told me to pick the stove, so I picked one.
They finally brought the new stove a week after I ordered it, but it came with the wrong cord. I told them it was a four prong and it was a three, but they sent me an email asking me the same question so, I said it was a three prong. The guy said I have to get another cord, so then I had to call and get one. Then he told me to use the old cord, which I did. But the motherboard on the new stove didn't work. He said that I might want to change the fuse and then he would be back. When he came back, he did a few more things and so far, it's working.
Then the top of the stove worked for about a week but the bottom didn't and it was the craziest thing, but it's okay so far and I can cook now. The contractor was good and the company had been out several times and they had always done well. I just wish American Home Shield could get their act together with the phone situation. But as far as replacing something that they couldn't fix and the contractors that they sent out, they were excellent.

The first time I submitted a claim at American Home Shield, I did it by phone and it was a big mistake because I was on hold forever. But once I got to their reps, it was fine. They're professional and they get it done. Once I complained about the waiting time, they said to just do it over the computer. I did, then it was fine. Recently, my heater stopped working in the middle of a snowstorm and AHS sent a contractor to fix it. He was fast, considerate and good. He didn't have the part that I have, so he drove and then came back 45 minutes later with the part and fixed it.
However, I wish AHS would send me a list of items that are covered. For instance, I didn't know that garbage disposals were included in appliances and I don't know what category ceiling fans fall into. If I were to call and I had a list of things that need repair, I would like to do that in the same call instead of calling different times. Besides that, my experience was fantastic. I would recommend my friends to get AHS. The warranty has saved me a few times.

When we purchased the plan from American Home Shield, everything was new in our new house but we also knew that everything would start breaking on us. We have the plan for a while now and January of last year, I had a claim for my microwave oven which stopped heating. AHS sent out somebody and he fixed it. In the process though, he messed up a vent. The oven was so loud when it was on. So the contractor came back out and tried to fix it the best that he could. A few weeks down the road, the microwave again went out, so they came out and fixed it again. A few months later, it quit heating up. It was a nightmare trying to get on the line with AHS and getting somebody. Everybody kept pointing the finger. The contractor was blaming AHS and AHS was blaming the contractor.
It was the only time I was really unhappy because AHS kept saying that the technicians were the ones that came out and they were the specialist and if they said that the oven needed to be replaced, it would be replaced. But technicians told us that was not the case. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it was the third time that it happened in one year and that should tell them that the oven needed to be replaced. I could’ve bought one or two new microwaves at that price. I got it replaced eventually at the beginning of this year but that should have been done from the get-go.
During another time, I had a garage door opener issue, but AHS took care of that. And recently, my heater was not heating. The contractor fixed it but about three weeks later, it started acting up again, so I called them. I did not want to file a claim online as I needed to talk to somebody because it was an ongoing issue. I waited over an hour and a half which was ridiculous when I didn’t have that kind of time. It turned out that another part was broken which took a bit to get here but they got it and now the heater is working really good. The contractor that I dealt with was really pleasant. It was just one of those hit and miss type of thing.
When things go down, I get it that sometimes they couldn't come out immediately because there’s a process and they got to get it approved. Then sometimes, they have to wait for the parts. But I don’t like being without an appliance for three weeks, especially something that I use on a daily basis. But still, I'm satisfied with AHS because at the end of the day, whatever was broken was either replaced or has been taken care of. It may not be in the timely manner that I would like it to be done, but still, it gets done. Also, the people that came out were very pleasant and helpful so I would recommend them. In fact, I have referred them to a couple of friends and they have purchased the warranty.

I will never use American Home Shield again. We had two clothes washers and on the spin cycle, the drum was rattling. It sounded like it was rattling out of the machine. So, we called AHS and they sent somebody out. The person said there was some damage in there and the repair was probably going to cost more than the machine's worth. He submitted his reports and then AHS dragged their feet. For a second opinion, they sent another technician out from a different company. He came out and said the same thing. A week went by and we'd been calling since we were trying to get some answers. Nobody called back. We talked to one lady online and she said they were going to submit the approval for the replacement and so we waited but nothing happened.
My wife called and they said they were going to repair it. Another five days went by and then AHS denied the claim. They said that since we overloaded my washer, it's irreparable and they're not going to cover it. In the end, they totally ripped us off and we're not renewing with them. Aside from that, submitting a claim is a nightmare. We had a dishwasher go out and it took months. We'll never have another home warranty. It's an absolute joke. I had a rough experience and I'll tell anybody who wants to listen.
I understand your frustration with the service you experienced to have your washer machine repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that occurred.

I most recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield for fixing burners on the stove. They responded quickly and a person came out to the house within 24 hours. The contractors had to come back a second time because they didn't have the stuff in the truck that they needed, but they got it fixed. One of the burners is still little off but it's an old stove and we're going to be putting a new one in so it's all right. I don't think they could have done any better. I've submitted two or three claims which I do over the phone and the reps have been friendly and accommodating. The contractors were accommodating as well. I have recommended American Home Shield and these people have purchased it. If you have appliances that have no warranties, especially if they're older and you don't want to put a lot of money into major repairs, American Home Shield is a good insurance to have.

The old water heater broke down and needed to be fixed. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. The water heater is perfect and I'm done with it. The other issue I applied for was getting the front door re-coded or re-keyed. So, AHS sent out a company out and a technician got here at 12-ish and she didn’t' leave till close to 6:00. She was having issues all day with it. The main door getting re-keyed didn’t happen. She only re-keyed the back door but that wasn't our main concern. She said that they were going to come back again another day because she has to talk to her supervisor. She didn’t tell me she was struggling the whole day at my house when I thought it was going to be a 30-minute to an hour job, and she didn’t contact her boss to say she couldn't do it.
The technician would disappear into her vehicle for an hour and come back saying she didn’t have the part and it was broken. She left for Home Depot, came back an hour later and tried to work on it. We couldn't leave the house until she was gone. She informed us of what she was doing mostly through text. I contacted her Sunday and I paid AHS $75. I texted her to let me know when were they coming back. At the end of the day, I had to text her because they didn’t bother to contact me. Tuesday, Wednesday passed, and nothing. So on Thursday, I contacted her to see what was going on. She told me that her boss won’t be free until Saturday. We've been having issues with the door locking and closing. So, I accidentally left my keys inside and I closed the door because I didn’t want the dog to get out of the house, and the door locked itself which I didn’t even lock it.
So, we were outside the house the whole time and I called American Shield for help, asking people what has been going on. AHS told me they couldn’t send out somebody to unlock my door because they can't do it and gave me a bunch of excuses. I told them that they sent me a potluck guy on Sunday and I was trying to send this door fixed. I was stuck out with my wife and son in the cold for two hours and we couldn’t get inside. So, I had to call someone to unlock my door which cost me $290 to get the backdoor re-keyed the backdoor. He broke in through the door and had to re-key. I ended up paying for it.
So, the technician over at American Shield denied me because her boss denied me. I was pretty pissed off of what they did yesterday when they should have fixed the door last Sunday. There was no real reason to have this much difficult time. I called American Shield on Monday to explain what happened with the company and they contacted the company. They also were able to contact the manager of that company and immediately I got a text from that technician that came out. AHS needed to get a refund of the money from that company and I want my refund from American Shield.
I understand your concerns with the re-key service request and the noncovered cost paid to have the malfunction repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that have occurred.

Before finding American Home Shield, I used another company as a new homeowner and I didn’t know better than to try to run up the food chain. It was frustrating that when we called in our first issue to the other company, they found that it was under routine maintenance and they would not cover it even though it’s something that has to be replaced every 20 years. AHS is a lot better and my experience with them has been positive. We recently had a plumbing issue and submitting our claim online to AHS was a good experience. In the past, when we tried to do more than one request at one time, it was hard doing it online and trying to follow up with the call center was frustrating but the technicians were good, helpful and professional. AHS is great, I appreciate their policies and I would tell people to use it.
Hello, Nancy. We are so pleased to know that you like our services so much, you will recommend us to others. Thank you.

The igniter went out in the heater, and I submitted a claim online. I’ve had American Home Shield for a number of years, and there are a couple of vendors out there I will not use. The problem is, in their online, they don’t let me ask for a preferred vendor or somebody that has done work for me before and I know that they're a good company and they have good people. So, I have to do it online, and then if they give me some hodgepodge when I call them, it’s like holding for the next revolution. They’ll schedule the call, they’ll submit the vendor, and then if it’s somebody that I don’t want, I will call them and say that I’ve used these people before and I’d prefer not to use them again. I would ask American Home Shield to change the vendor and they have always done it. They’re really good about doing it. The only problem with it is I have to wait forever whenever I call. I’ve called before and had a 45-minute wait.
The recent contractors I got were really good, and this is the first time I used this contractor with the heater. I have multiple heater units, but the one in my master’s bedroom had gone out. I put the claim in and called on a Thursday, and I knew that that left one day and nobody would come out on a Saturday. We were forecast to have some really cold weather for the next three or four days, but the contractor called that Saturday and said that the guy will be out between these times. So, he came out on a Saturday and diagnosed the problem. It was an easy fix and it was done in probably 30 minutes, and I was really impressed. Overall, I’m pretty happy with American Home Shield. I’ve done my research and they’re the best of the home warranty people out there. The only problem with this home warranty is that sometimes you’ve got to fight them to get what’s right, and I don’t know if that’s the way the system is set up.
I had a real knock-down drag-out on a swimming pool issue, and finally, I had to go prove to them a whole bunch of stuff. When I finally did, they accepted it and paid for the claim. The heater was a good example of another drawback, but I’ve had it before where somebody couldn’t get out for three days, and I’ve had that on the air conditioning unit go out. If I call a contractor, I can get them to come out the next day. My satisfaction with American Home Shield depends on the situation. I’m still mad at them, but the last time was a really good experience. It depends on what breaks and what contractor comes out, and if you have to get into a hassle with them and all. It’s really claim-by-claim with American Home Shield, but they’re no different from any of the other ones.

We've used our American Home Shield warranty multiple times and filing a claim with them has been very easy. We've been with them for seven years now and their reps are usually really helpful. Also, the contractors that they send are pretty good. If I don't like one of them, I just let AHS know and they won't send him out again. Having AHS has saved us a lot of money.

We have three different houses covered by American Home Shield and we’re very satisfied with it and I feel very comfortable with having a warranty on my property. I’ve had it on for five or six years at my first house while my daughter has had it for a year and a half to two years. My son-in-law and daughter submit their claims online but I do it over the phone. The claims reps have always been very helpful. My biggest complaint is that I’d like the contractors to come out next day but it takes them two to three days max.
I was also very dissatisfied one time, and am still dissatisfied with it when I had to replace my whole air conditioning unit. My next-door neighbor, who I also recommended American Home Shield to, had her whole thing covered but they wouldn’t cover mine at all. I was livid about that but that was the only time I’ve ever been dissatisfied. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody and I’ve brought a lot of customers to them.

I'm grateful for American Home Shield because whenever anything goes out, which is rare, I get great service and I don't have to pay much. Everybody has been really positive and smiling. I submitted a claim for my heater over the phone and the representative I spoke to was really nice. The contractor changed the motherboard and tuned it up a little bit. It has been working great ever since so I'm really pleased. I would recommend AHS to all my friends.

We contacted American Home Shield when our refrigerator broke more than a month ago. The entire process has been a nightmare. American Home Shield required two service contractors to look at the unit before agreeing that it needed to be replaced. I was told many times by multiple people at American Home Shield that someone would follow up with me after each phone call, only to have no one follow through. Every time I called, there was a breakdown in communication, and multiple people gave me many different excuses. When I was finally transferred to the department that handles ordering replacement refrigerators, it was the same story, with the only difference being made to wait on hold for 50+ minutes before speaking with an agent. We feel trapped.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield is the worst company I have ever dealt with. We had a backup on Saturday. They said someone was coming out Sunday. Someone called in. The plumber said they could not get here till Monday but if we had water they could not get their feet wet so they couldn't come. Tuesday we're still waiting for someone. They call Tuesday night at 8 p.m. and say they couldn't make it out. Wednesday No One still showed up. They took our $75.
We canceled our service and they still took the money out for the following month and said they didn't get our cancellation notice. They didn't refund her $75 or on other money. Did nothing for us. Was very rude and nasty. We call in 32 * and never got one service from them. Reset for 6 days. They even said they would authorize someone. Well that didn't work. Nobody wanted to deal with them it when they hurt their companies name. They refused us. What a waste of time and money. I didn't get a refund or anything. They were the most disrespectful people I've ever in my life. I am sorry I ever signed up with that company and I would never refer them to anyone.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the stoppage repaired. Also, I understand that there are some concerns with the service fee. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.

When I bought the house, it came with the AHS warranty and so far, they seemed to be doing a really good job at the times I’ve needed them. I was having a problem with my air conditioning unit recently so I submitted a claim over the phone. Their reps were wonderful and really understanding like the couple of time that I had to use them. I didn't have to go into a bunch of details and I just told them what was wrong. Then by the next day, I got a call back from the contractor like I usually do.
The first company that AHS sent out said the problem was the motor so they brought a new motor and put it in. Then they said it was the compressor motor so they said they had to come back and replace that. In the mean time, I called the company that services my unit and when they came out, they said it was just a resistor problem. That cost me 250 bucks out of my own pocket to get the air conditioning working right and through this winter, it did okay. But it got back to where it was getting hot. I knew my air conditioning unit wasn’t blowing out right so I called AHS again. They sent a contractor out and he said that some of the wirings were run wrong by the first company that came out and repaired it. The contractor wired it correctly and it seems to be working better now.
All in all, the first company was trying to rip off American Home Shield because they were trying to charge for a second motor that didn’t need to be replaced. But this last guy that came out seemed to be very knowledgeable. I’m happy with AHS and I’ve recommended them to friends. I was also trying to get my best friend who just bought a house about a year ago to sign up with them.

I'm very impressed with American Home Shield. We've owned this home for 18 years and we have had quite a number of issues with different appliances and things. AHS has been very good and we've been very pleased with them. Recently, my husband submitted a claim for an electrical issue where the outlet box had to be replaced. He moved something that bumped and blew out the fuse. It sparked, was black around the outlet, and the whole room didn't have electricity. It took us a little while to get the appointment because of a lot of things. It was during the time of all the snow and AHS sent a company that was not local, so they had to come from afar. We waited and when the contractor came, it only took him 30 minutes max to fix the issue. He was very professional and the outlet box worked well after the repair.

I had American Home Shield when I lived in Greenville, Texas and I used them three times and saved a ton of money. So, I renewed it and used it again. They're the best bang for your buck. When I got here, I didn't even think about not having them. AHS has always been there to answer calls and they always got right back. The service people that do the repairs call within a couple of hours to get something done. It has been really good. AHS has also changed the claims process to where it is much better. I used to have to be here or leave a check for somebody to show up with the check and now, they just charge the fee to my credit card after they do the service.
Most recently it was 13 degrees below and my furnace quit working. It was running for a while and then it kicked off, then it ran for a while and kicked off again. American Home Shield was great in getting somebody out here on the day I called. Also, a couple of months before that, I had a pool pump go out and they had somebody out here the very next day.

The air condition stopped working. I called AHS. They sent out a tech and he needed some Freon to it, then told me that the air condition would be fine. He said that he could only pressurize it up, put the Freon in, and make sure it holds the pressure, but it was not going to resolve the problem. He also said that I have a pinhole somewhere along the way where it found a weak spot and leaked out.
He charged me for some sealer. They kept this chemical which they put in first before the Freon, and then the Freon behind it. It would go through the whole system. There were very small pinhole leaks and the chemical would seal it and then it would hold the Freon. The sealer lasted for four months, but then again, no air conditioning. AHS sent the technician out again and this time, he said that the air condition was burned dry and that AHS won't pay to fill it up. He said it was going to be six dollars a pound. But when it was all said and done, it was around $600 to $700. There seemed to be an issue here, that was why it was losing the Freon.
AHS didn't pay for the Freon and they probably wouldn't pay if we replaced the air conditioner since it was out several times and they couldn't find the leak. I had to step forward when they indicated that there was no warrant to replace the air conditioning. So, I kept requesting to speak with a manager, who had more information than what the current person had. They said that someone would be in touch with me. The following day, a young lady called, went through the whole thing and she said that she has all my records.
I told AHS that I would have someone come out and that I was installing a new air conditioner since I needed one as my wife was in pain and we live in Florida. The company came out and I had a builder, which was fine. Then, the lady from AHS called back and wanted some additional information from the insurance company that would help make a decision where we're headed. I supplied that to her and then, she called back and said that in reviewing everything and that I'm a loyal customer, they appreciate my business and that they were willing to give me what was considered a value of the price it goes towards the air conditioner.
But I didn't expect them to pay for the full unit. We came up with a figure which was $1,500. And she said it would take a couple of weeks for everything to work out. In the meantime, I had air condition, so I was happy. It was all handled well. However, I realized whenever I called American Home Shield and they sent out an individual, I should receive a receipt that they were here and what was done for my record. But they didn't do that. But I would still tell a friend that AHS is a very reputable company and I've had good experiences with them when I used to live in Pennsylvania.
Thank you for letting us know about your service.

I initiated a claim with American Home Shield back in July for my washing machine and it took about seven visits to resolve the issue in about eight months. The contractor said that they were going to order parts. They ordered the parts but they’re not the right parts. Then they marked the claim as finished, which is not. So, I tried to get a hold of American Home Shield and let them know that it was not done and I was still on hold for hours at a time. The contractor said that he is going to let American Home Shield know that the washing machine cannot be fixed and AHS kept saying that the contractor has not contacted them. So, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and I ended up waiting ever since. It is ridiculous. AHS finally replaced the washing machine because it wasn't repairable.
The only way one can get a resolution with AHS is to pick up the phone every single day and call and wait on hold for hours. I spent hours on hold on the phone, talked to different people, and never got the same answer twice. They made a lot of empty promises that they would escalate things and never did. They would escalate to their contractor resolution department and they would have 24 hours to respond then a week would go by. It usually took a couple of weeks for them to send a contractor out but I always had to push for the appointments. In fact, I'm still waiting for somebody from social media to contact me with my issues and it's horrible. I had an oven issue that never even got resolved and I finally gave up on that. Also, one cannot cancel their contract as they have to do it in writing but AHS ignores it and continues to bill. The only way to do it is to cancel the account that it is being drawn on. It is crazy.

I contacted American Home Shield when my washing machine stopped spinning a couple of months ago. I usually submit my claim by phone but I did this one online. We've had good and bad experiences with AHS but overall, we've been grateful and I'm glad we have them. They've been willing to bring people out and service our stuff. If I ever built another house or if we sold our house and bought another home, I would try to get American Home Shield to cover it again.

When our dryer quit working, I submitted a claim online and the next day, I already had a contractor. It was smooth and very quick. The contractors were awesome. As soon as they got assigned, they called and made their appointment. They came out and explained the whole process. They were amazing. Everything has been going well after the fix and I would recommend American Home Shield.

The guy from Total Air was very nice and informative. He knew what he was talking about because my husband was out there with him, and he was very thorough. He was trying to get the air conditioner system running and when he got it done, I was inside and I thought that it was my neighbor’s lawn mower running. It made the worst sound and noise. He said it was malfunctioning badly and it definitely needed to be replaced. He told me that it was covered by American Home Shield and he was going to come back because he didn’t have the part. He came on a Saturday and I was already irritated and upset because he was trying to get somebody to come by and see me.
The worst part was he told me that under my plan that even if I needed the part, I would have to pay $660 for some coolant stuff to make the system cool. It was something that he had to inform me of because he didn’t want to surprise me when he came back out. It totally blew my mind. I didn’t have $660 with me to give somebody. I know for a fact that there are other companies that don’t charge their customers. My girlfriend goes to another company that does not pay Freon that goes into the unit.
I'm a little perturbed with American Home Shield and I am so ready to leave them. I got an 85-year-old mother that has Alzheimer's and dementia, and right now, we are struggling. For some of the past years that I've been with American Home Shield, it was fine because they've done all of the small things. We've had them for so long and this is the first time I've had something big and major like this. They took my money and they have yet to come and fix the problem.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone when my heat pump would not go into the defrost cycle. That went well, although I was put on hold for a long time before I eventually got through. There might have been some bad weather and it took a while to get through to somebody. The representative I spoke with took my information and told me that they would have a contractor contact me. Our interaction was good and fairly simple.
The first contractor that came out was not good at all. I waited for him for four hours, but he was here for only 10 minutes. He called first before he came over and I told him what the problem was. But when he came, all he did was take pictures of the heat pump and the nomenclature panel on the heat pump. He said that he would have to get a defrost board and a sensor, and he would try to get back the next day. The next day, he called and said that he was coming back. I told him that I couldn’t be here, but he said that was fine because the unit is outside and he wouldn’t need me here. So, he came back and did whatever work he was going to do.
But the heat pump frosted up again and I called AHS back. They lined me up with another contractor who came out and looked at the defrost board and the sensor. The second contractor was very good. He showed me everything, step by step, with what he was doing, and he showed me the board and the sensor. It turned out that although the defrost board was replaced, the sensor was never replaced. When he pulled the sensor out, it was old and dirty, and it wasn't new. He had to get a part and he said that he’d be back the next day. He came back the next day, put the new sensor in, checked everything out, and everything worked fine from there. AHS and the claim process were good, but the selection of the first contractor that came out was not very good.
Hello, George. We hate to hear that the first contractor did not do what he stated needed to be done. Thankful for the second technician. Thank you for your feedback.

When we first got American Home Shield warranty, it was good. But then they started not doing the right thing, and everything started getting really expensive. Every summer, we had to call them to come and fix because they didn’t do whatever they were supposed to have done the previous time. And every summer, we had to get stuff done to the air conditioner. Every time we call American Home Shield, we pay $75 and they could never do anything for us. So it's $75 for nothing and they don’t cover this and they don’t cover that, so we just canceled it. I am dissatisfied with American Home Shield. The problem wasn’t the attitude of the reps, it was the service itself.

I have been with American Home Shield for eight years. I called them because there was a condensation in the rear of my refrigerator and also, the steel needed to be replaced. The guy from American Home Shield fixed the condensation and then he had to order the seal. But it was several months for the seal to come in. It was a Sub-Zero. Even so, the guy who came and his son were both wonderful. However, when I called American Home Shield, I was put on hold for 50 minutes. It was very frustrating. AHS should answer their phones and put more people on it. My time's more valuable to me than their time. And I pay them for their time.
I wasn't trying to order a repair. I was trying to respond to their email, which said that my credit card wasn't going through. I went online and it was going through. And then this morning again, I called again. They were more responsive if you email them. But in this case, it was a "Do not reply." email address. So I could not respond to that. Nevertheless, I have recommended AHS multiple times. I referred them to my sister, my father, my brother-in-law, and other people. Overall, I'm very happy I could get a lot of value for the cost. The product is excellent indeed.

We filed claims with American Home Shield over the phone for our range. It was automated because it was on a Saturday. The contractor who came out was fine. He came out on the day and quickly diagnosed the range. However, the complaint that I had with him was that I called the next week and it had been five business days since he had been here at my house. I checked to see if anything had come from his part search to fix our range. He said that he didn't locate anything and contacted American Home Shield so I called AHS to get an update but I found out he only called AHS to update them with the part search immediately after I got off the phone with him. He delayed the process for a week because he didn't call like he was supposed to.
There was also some sort of miscommunication. AHS went back and forth with us over the course of almost two weeks about the part search. Unfortunately, we also encountered some holidays in there so we lost a few days. They eventually did a part search and once we got on, we had to stay on them about it. After that was done, they got with us about what we wanted to do. We opted to take a cash settlement as opposed to having them select a range from their website because, then, it would take another 14 business days after that for them to be able to deliver it to us. So, we went ahead and bought one on our own and submitted a receipt to American Home Shield. It took approximately a week to a week and a half for them to reimburse us. In the meantime, during all of that, we bought a toaster oven to carry us through. So, they reimbursed us $75 for the $130 we paid for a nice toaster oven.
We got really upset with them and complained to the Better Business Bureau, who intervened briefly. AHS also refunded us the deductible that we initially paid for the inconvenience. All in all, between the miscommunication and us contacting the Better Business Bureau, it took about a month for us to get everything fixed and get our range back. It was a bit of a hassle. Before, when we had the issue with our dryer, everything was quick. The total downtime with that with the weekend was nine days, which wasn't too bad. But the case with the range was a bit of a nightmare. We were frustrated with them for a while but the end result was we were able to buy a nice range, and we only paid $20 more than what they reimbursed us to get the one that we wanted.
We have had a good experience with AHS, except for the last time. It's worth having AHS especially if a large piece of your house goes out like your air conditioning unit. It's worth having the service so we'd still recommend it. Just make sure that you have arrangements made in case something’s not necessarily considered an emergency replacement.

I noticed a smell in the bathroom then the light switch and the outlet there quit working. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and within a few days, the contractor came. He was fantastic. He fixed the issue and gave me a lot of information about my older house, how it was wired and things like that. It was all great. My only issue was the way American Home Shield handled it because we were unaware that we were not supposed to pay the contractor.
We gave him a check. It got deposited and then shortly, we got a withdrawal. American Home Shield charged us the $75 copay. My wife had to call them and tell them that we already paid and that the company already deposited it, so we paid twice. They told us, “Fine. We’ll give you a refund.” They then gave us a refund but then I got four separate e-mails saying that we have an outstanding bill with American Home Shield. We had to keep calling every time that happens and it takes time. I'm hoping they got it taken care of but I would not be surprised if I get another e-mail.

I had a leaky kitchen faucet. I tried to submit my claim to American Home Shield online but I live in the country and they never assign someone in my area. I got a letter from them before saying that if the contractors are not in my area, I have to notify them. That happened several times. I had to request for somebody but that couldn't be done online. So, I called in and requested a certain plumber. The particular plumber who came was great, he works red. I've had an air conditioning man as well. I've had no problem with them once I could get them here. Other than the fact that they did a good job, they were on time too in calling me and checking with me. When they said they'd be here, they were here.
However, the contractor couldn't repair the faucet and they're supposed to be getting me another one or giving me what they call a buyout because they can't replace it. I'm still waiting to hear from them. They came here last Friday and they said that they would contact me by Monday. Monday is about over and I haven't heard from them. Other than that I'm very satisfied with AHS.

This is the worst experience I've ever had with a home warranty company. It is nearly impossible to speak to anyone, they contract with vendors that have terrible reviews and can't get the job done, there is no escalation process (like when you have a broken dishwasher for 7 weeks and have had the service guy come out 5 times and it still isn't working). It's unbelievable to me. They obviously care more about procuring new business than keeping existing customers. There is no way I will renew my contract with this company.

I had an issue with an electrical outlet in our kitchen. We plugged in there for several years and then, all of a sudden, we noticed that when the device that we had was plugged into the side of the wall, it was causing a power surge on that side of the house. So, it ended up having to be switched out. We had discovered what the problem was late at night so rather than wait on the phone, we ended up submitting the claim through the website. The contractor who came out was excellent. He was very attentive to detail and very helpful. He went above and beyond what he needed to do. He explained everything and he looked at other areas too where he could change something. But he'd say, "Oh, well, I don't necessarily need to change it now. But just so you're aware."
Submitting claims online is a bit different. When he had to deal through the call-in service, it would be almost two hours before we can get someone on the phone. There were a few reps we had dealt with where it seemed they were trying to get us off the phone as quickly as possible and were not really taking the time to understand what our need is. So, we had to end up calling back because they've communicated something incorrectly to the contractor. And then, we have to go around and round and round, it becomes frustrating to deal with. But when we're dealing with the online service, it wasn't as bad. But there were some reps too that helped us, were on top of the situation and were more than helpful.
We had an issue that wasn't an electrical but was more of an AC-related issue and AHS ended up sending an electrician out. They ended up wasting time and essentially money on American Home Shield's part because we pay for our service in installment payments. And then, we also pay for the service calls they have done. But with that, if it doesn't work within a certain amount of time, if it goes and it breaks down again, then we call back and we have AHS send someone out and it becomes not at our cost at that point because it's related to that same call. So, it's money wasted for American Home Shield, which in turn raises our rates because they've got to recoup that money somehow. So, in the end, it becomes a bit of a concern on that level.
So far, majority of our experiences have been good and easy to deal with. But there have been times where either things weren't covered or we have issues with the service or the contractor. Nevertheless, if someone would ask, "What do you use or what did you use before?" I could tell them American Home Shield. I wouldn't feel bad to give them my recommendation.

There was flooding in my basement that had to do with the water heater and the toilet. The debris from the toilet got into the basement and it got to the point where it was really unsafe for the people in the household because it smelled. At first, it seemed like AHS was putting me off since it went on for a while. I kept trying to tell them that the people who had originally taken care of it were no longer available but they wouldn't listen to me. So finally, after I threatened to call the Health Department, they decided that they would do something. Once the ball started working, they went on along with me.
I had to find someone who could come and help me because they couldn't find anybody. They went along with who I chose, which was a wonderful thing and I appreciated it. Also, since the debris went inside the heater, it broke and they replaced it. The guy they sent did a wonderful work. The only problem I had was that they did not want to accept the bottom of the claim. They said that there were wipes on the inside of the water, but nobody uses wipes in our house. I've had a wonderful experience with AHS. I've been with them forever and they have been there for us and have always come through. One little bump in the road means nothing to me, and I would never change.

I have two policies with American Home Shield for different locations which are going on for about five years now. One for the home we live in and one for another home that I own. Recently, I made a claim for the refrigerator's icemaker in our home. I submitted it on the phone to American Home Shield and it wasn't a very pleasant experience. The first time I called, I waited for an hour and 44 minutes. On the second time, I was on hold and whenever the call got completed, I was disconnected right away. I called back again and it was an hour and 38 minutes.
We finally ended up calling the headquarters. My wife had a number and she called there and got them involved. Then there was a mix up because they sent the fellow to the wrong address. They tried to put it on me that I gave them the wrong address and contract number, but I didn't. In fact, whenever the tech called, he called my home phone number. But when he said he was at my front door, I was sitting here waiting for him and I could see out the front door that he wasn’t there. I knew right away what happened.
So I gave him the right address and when he came, he had to order a part. Then, lo and behold, they canceled the claim. I had to call them back and we got the main office involved. The lady there took care of it and she got another contractor to come out. That contractor looked at the icemaker and ordered the same part. We waited a week for the part to come in then he came back and fixed it. And because we had so much trouble and so much confusion, the lady at corporate headquarters waived the service fee.
Still, I was very disappointed with my experience. The long wait time was inexcusable and if AHS doesn't have enough people to answer the telephone, that’s their business. But people have to contact them and they should understand that not everybody in this world is a computer person. I am one of those people as I have a trembling in my arms and my hands. I can’t run a computer keyboard that way because before I get my finger off of a button, I’ve clicked that three times. Another thing is, I’ve spent a lot of money on the monthly fees and I have to direct pay for my credit card. Then all of a sudden the monthly fee went up and I didn’t know anything about it until I saw it on my credit receipt.

I called three times for my dishwasher. The first time, it was not heating. American Home Shield had Rand's Appliances send out a man and a heating unit had to be put in it. The second time, something flipped and they came back and fixed that. The third time, I had to call them to come back and re-attach the dishwasher into the cabinet under the granite countertop. I opened the dishwasher door one day and the tiny screws popped out which caused my dishwasher to fall forward. The tech put in larger screws and now it is fine.
The only problem that I had was in trying to get through to American Home Shield or in trying to call Rand's Appliances back if I miss their call. Some male voice comes on the recording saying that they were very busy, to leave my name and number and that they would call me back as soon as they can. Two days went by and I did not hear anything, so I went through the motions again. I called and waited for them to call me. When you hear that recording, you might as well hang up 'cause you're not gonna hear. Finally, the last time I called, I was lucky. A real person answered the phone. I was even shocked. They immediately came out and fixed the dishwasher. The representatives themselves are fine but it takes forever and a day to reach them. I mentioned this to them and they said that they were very busy. That was my only complaint. That aside, they were prompt in getting the repairmen out here.

I had a bad experience with AHS and it took three months to get everything situated. They even overcharged me and yet they did not produce and I had to contact them several times. I had issues with three appliances and the people they got to come out to my house were terrible. They didn’t know what they were doing. For my dishwasher, the technicians had to order parts for it, but they took it apart and they did not put it back together properly when the part came in. I couldn't even run the dishwasher 'cause the cord that goes in the dishwasher was still not put back. I had to call them again to have the technician come out there and put the cord back on properly.
Then, I had a problem with my refrigerator but they sent a guy who said that the problem was not my refrigerator. It was the water coming from the house to the refrigerator. So, AHS transferred that tech call to a plumber. When the plumber came out there, he unscrewed the valve from the house to the refrigerator and water just gushed in there, going everywhere. And I was there with him. So it was not the house per se. It was the refrigerator. They pushed it back to the plumber but I asked AHS to send me a different plumber since that first one didn’t know what he was doing. They sent out another plumber and it took longer than a month since they had to get parts but they finally fixed it.
But the person who came out to fix my refrigerator cut a hole in the wall. I talked to the lady from AHS since we got permission from them to cut the hole and they said that they would replace it. But she said that they were going to give me $100 instead because they couldn’t find anyone to come out there and do the job. I refused that offer since I probably wouldn’t be able to find anyone to come out there to do the job for $100 either. She said that might be true but their policy wouldn't allow them to pay more than $100 for the part to get it reattached.
I got in a fit and I kept on the phone for another 30-minutes so she finally said that they would give me $150. But if she knew she could give me $150, then she could probably give me $200 or even go as far as finding someone to come out here and fix this problem. But she was either lazy or she didn’t want to spend the money to get my property fixed like they agreed to. But she said that all she could do was give me the $150 and make sure that I would get the amount.
Another thing that was crazy was my AC unit. It makes a squeaky noise and at the same time, if it's 80 to 90 degrees outside, it's probably 110 degrees in my three-bedroom, two-bathroom home of roughly about 1,200 sq. ft. AHS was telling me that all the parts are moving and it’s blowing air so they don't want to change it or fix it. The AC is working but it was no longer strong enough to keep up with the house. Then that’s not working properly. It was so unfair because they told me that if a part isn’t working, they are going to change it and either give me a new one of the same brand or fix the one I have. But they didn't do anything so we got ceiling fans instead.
AHS overcharged us too. They would charge me a tech fee and then the technician would come out here and not fix the issue or they would only give me 30 to 90 days so if anything happens again after that time frame, they would want a new service fee even though they know it’s the exact same problem I was having the first time they came out. It's like a trick and it's not fair for me to have to continue paying AHS for the same thing.
Plus when I put a call request, I put in my credit card and it pays AHS upfront. But then, I've had a technician on the backend saying that AHS told them to collect $75. I called AHS and they said that they didn't see evidence of me paying so I have to take screenshots from my phone. But I would prefer AHS to get a better system of how they collect the money and keep track of it.
My wife and I have also probably lost a few hundred dollars dealing with AHS just for them not being honest and not telling us about the amount of money they had charged us twice. There were a few times where they charged us the monthly fee twice in one month and I had to get them to send the checks back. It was bad. I've been with American Home Shield for about three years now but if they had any competition, I probably wouldn’t be with them. But I'm a landlord so I need my things to be safe even if it takes two months for them to finally fix and get things right.

We've had American Home Shield for quite a long time and they've always done a good job for us. I had a heating issue and when I submitted a claim, it was really easy. I did it online since I needed to get somebody to come out and look at it. The reps scheduled it for the next Monday when I called on a Friday. AHS sent out a contractor and when he came, he told me who he was, what he was going to do and what he did. He took care of the issue but it took two service calls.
The first call was for a capacitor out in the outside unit that wouldn't run and he fixed it. It wasn’t much longer and then it quit working again outside. When I sent the info to AHS, a different tech came out very quickly. He went out and looked. He said, "There was too much pressure and that locked it out.” I have two big air returns up in the house which have filters in them that I didn’t know. It was right above where it goes into the air and takes down the basement. It happened to be the filter was covered up by some piping. We started looking around and he found that filter. Since the repair, the heater is fine and we’re getting some heat now, though we don’t turn the heat up as much as we used to.

The pressure gauge of the water heater in one of our rental units was broken and the first company that American Home Shield sent out tried to gyp everybody to have it replaced. They were trying to charge us $900 for it and initially American Home Shield said it wasn't covered by the warranty but when my husband called and asked over and over why it was not covered when it is part of the water heater until they finally said that my husband was right. We got a second company to come out and they ended up covering it. They wouldn’t have if my husband hadn’t gotten on the phone.
So we got a water heater out of the policy but for the most part, it wasn’t even worth calling them because we knew the majority of the things weren’t going to be covered. They would find some excuse not to cover them and it didn’t make sense for us to spend that much money on a warranty when we’re going to end up spending money on repairs anyway. Also, I didn’t trust most of the contractors except for the last guy we had. So we didn't renew our policy and if anyone is going with a warranty company, I would tell them to shop around and they might have a better experience than we did.

So maybe that was just bad luck that I had for the request time. You basically cannot get ahold of them over the phone. The wait time was over a half hour so it all has to be done online through sending through their web page. But if you need to get ahold of someone online you'll get to their sales team no problem. American Home Shield is good if the appliance gets repaired but if it doesn’t and if you have a problem with your service call they're hard to get ahold of so you'd have to start sending emails but I don't know if they're responding to those though either. So I go back on the line and just re-request it.

I made a claim recently with AHS for our washing machine. The contractor who came out was knowledgeable, knew what he was doing and fixed the problem. He needed to get some parts and we had to wait for them to come in so the repair took a few weeks. But since the repair, the washer has been keeping everything clean. AHS does an adequate job and they take care of things the way they should. They are a great value and I recommend them to others.

There had been a couple of times when I've had difficulties with one thing with American Home Shield like when there was something stuck in the toilet. I found out after I ended up having to spend nearly $600 to have somebody install a new toilet that the toilet was bad. Overall, I couldn't complain. It was unfortunate that it did not cover my refrigerator. The ice in my refrigerator worked fine but the water thing stopped working and it was all the same thing so I know it wasn't covered. The waiting time over the phone was too long. It had to be at least five minutes.
However, the last experience with American Home Shield was very good. It was a claim for the oven. I waited because I wanted a black oven instead of a white one. I had no problem there. But the people that they sent out to install it couldn't do it. There was an electrical outlet that they were not qualified to do. They had to leave the oven in a big box in my family room because there was no room in the garage. I had to wait until I got another gentleman in, Jeremy, who I really like because he was very good. He took care of fixing the electrical, installed the oven and took the box away. And then he came back. I had an open space around or above the oven that had to be covered. We did that on our own. That was not him and it had nothing to do with American Home Shield but Jeremy was very diligent about that.

My faucet wasn't working and I had no water in my kitchen sink. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone and their representative was distant. The technician was here in about two days and they let me know that they would order the part then they would call me back in 10 to 14 days and come out to fix it. I called AHS and asked the man how his wife would like to go without water in her kitchen sink for 14 days. It was a huge issue and what he offered to do was to pay me and let me have somebody else come out to fix it. Having a home warranty is terribly important. I am 72 years old and a single lady with a handicapped son. I have had American Home Shield over 20 years on my property, but right now I am researching to find somebody else.
I would first like to thank you for being a customer of AHS for over 20 years. Also, I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have your faucet repaired and the reimbursement that was offered. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.

When I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my garage door, the repairman they sent out didn’t have the parts with him and had to come back the next week. It was my first time to file a claim and I never set up an account online. When I did and I figured out how to sign in, I realized that my bill was overdue. So I paid it instantly. But initially, I didn't even know that I had to pay the bill because the guy said that if I got a credit card on file, that’d be charged automatically.
Then I had another claim for my washing machine for which American Home Shield referred me to Sears. When I didn’t hear from the contractor, I called them. They said they have been out here already and that I wasn't at home when they did. But they didn’t even call and I was sure they didn’t come because I have a security gate that no one could get through unless I knew they were coming. We argued back and forth a while then their rep checked and said that I would have to call back AHS and request the service again. So I did and I ended up waiting 50 something minutes to talk to somebody. I couldn’t do that online because their website said I already had a call on the washer.
In the meantime, I kept getting notices from American Home Shield that I hadn’t paid the service fee. I put a hold on that since no one showed up yet but there was no place on their website to say why I wasn't paying the bill. So I had to call in for the second time and I waited well over 50 minutes again to talk to someone. It’d be nice if their customers could correspond by email rather than having to wait on the line for long. When I talked to them, the rep said that there was nothing she could do to take that bill off. But I kept getting overdue notices so finally, I gave up and paid a notice that said January 10th even though they didn’t come out until the 15th of January. That delay caused me to miss my washing machine for several weeks.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I needed to have an electrical issue taken care of and so I went online and scheduled for service with American Home Shield. It was very easy. I did everything online and then I received an email telling me who would be calling me to set up an appointment. The contractor then called me to set up a day and time and then they took care of my service. I was very well satisfied.
I’ve had American Home Shield since 2009, when we purchased this property, and the seller gave us the first year free. And we've decided to keep it ever since. I like everything about AHS except that my premium goes up every year. But when I compare it to others, I cannot complain about my premium. I have another home and I thought about getting a policy for it. I went online and it would have been more than what I'm paying for the home that I do have covered. I chose not to do it because I didn’t want to pay that premium.
I've been very satisfied with Home Shield. It's very easy to schedule service. One thing that I would like, however, is to have a choice of who I can have service from. But I can't complain about any of the service people they have sent me. And so a couple of weeks ago, I sent the "Refer a Friend" email to a friend of mine because they were talking about a Home Shield policy and so I told them about mine and I sent them the information.

My downstairs toilet wouldn't flush without me holding it down. Also, the water in the upstairs toilet would always keep running and it would never shut off. I submitted a claim to AHS and I love the online claims process of American Home Shield. It was very quick and user-friendly. The contractor who came out was a great and nice guy too. He let me know when he was finished and told me what he had done. However, the tank in my downstairs toilet was too small and the contractor who put it in when the house was built didn’t use the best toilet that they could find. So, I don't think there's much I can do about that until I replace the toilet. But the toilets are much better now since the repair. Overall, I’ve been satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield.

I would highly recommend American Home Shield. I simply go online to submit a claim and whoever has it calls me, schedules an appointment and gets it taken care of. The contractors have been very qualified people. Once they get in, they know what they're doing. I have a hot water heater upstairs in my attic which the technicians came out for. They were saying it was one problem, but they did not know exactly what the problem was. It turned out to be something totally different. The first try, they didn't get it right but they did exactly what they needed to do and they repaired it. The water heater has been excellent since it was fixed. AHS has done everything that I've ever asked them to do when I have a problem so, they're well worth whatever I pay on a monthly or annual basis. I will tell everybody that they need to be part of American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim for my dishwasher, which was making a noise even if it was not in use, and dryer with AHS. I did it through their app and it was good. If you do it over the phone, you'd stay there forever a day. The contractor they sent was really good. He took 20 minutes to do the dryer then he checked the dishwasher. I waited for him to order the part for it but it wasn't available anymore, so AHS replaced the whole thing. I had to call them back about the appliance and then they sent me an email on choosing my electronics. I liked it because I'm a computer person. The contractor then told me about a leak that I had to have repaired before he could install the unit.
The only thing I didn’t like about American Home Shield was about the ants in my AC. They did something there but then they didn't cover it and I had to pay $300. But sometimes, I'm not really sure about the make or model for something that’s broken and I would still rather talk to somebody. The only complaint I've got against American Home Shield is that they are terrible about answering their phone and I sit on hold for 45 minutes. Recently, the pump went out of my washing machine. I called American Home Shield to file a claim for a washing machine that I had a problem with, and my interaction with the reps was positive. They helped me out, and they told me the options that were available to me because they weren't able to repair it. Then we went out, and we got one and had it installed about two weeks ago. The people at Majestic Appliance, the company that I bought the washer and dryers from, were absolutely fantastic, and the technician, Joe, was amazing. Joe was my primary contact at Majestic, and he was doing follow-up calls all the time. We wanted the washer and dryer to match, but the dryer wasn't broken. That was the only thing that was disappointing. So, we had to get a matching set, and we gave the dryer away to charity.
The American Home Shield reps told me that they would give me credit for $633.30, which was approximately what it cost me because I also got the pedestal that it sits on. But they were fair. They also told me over the phone that they were going to send me the amount once I send them a paid invoice. It has to say ‘paid’ on it because I got one, but it didn't say that, so I had to send it back. I've already paid Majestic Appliance, but I need a hard copy of the bill, and I’m waiting for it. My wife was handling it, and it got confusing. Nevertheless, I would absolutely recommend American Home Shield. They did as much as they could, and I was happy with the service. The warranty is a good product and it's worth the money. I've been paying over the years and this is the first time we really had an issue, and they were amazing. We had a claim for our heating and air system. The heating system would not blow hot air and it kept running. The first time the contractor came, we thought the Freon that goes into the system was out. He checked that, which was wonderful, so he worked on it and everything was good. Then we had to call back a month later and that time, we thought it was freezing up but it turned out to be the thermostat so it was replaced. I found out that the last several times I've used American Home Shield, I have gone online and within the same day, someone responded to me. When I have called over the phone in the past, it took them a couple of days to get back to me so the online service has been wonderful and I have been doing that lately. It was Comfort Heating and Air out of Sanford who serviced us. They've been here three times, and they were the best people that have serviced us.

I had a little problem with American Home Shield. I'm about to cut off my contracts which I have for both of my properties. I had called for a dispatch for my washer and dryer. I paid with the credit card but they also debited my checking account. It almost put me into overdrive because that’s not my business account. It was hell and back to get my $75. Nobody seemed to understand what was going on each time I would call. It was disturbing. They said to call back and that they were going to put it through. Finally, I called OneAffiniti two weeks ago, I got the check last week.
The technician who came was very professional. But when he left, my washer was pouring out hot water. So, I had to call him back. He handled it very well this time. I asked him to check the wiring just to see if it's connected correctly. He did and he confirmed it was switched. Hot was on cold while cold was on hot. I was really upset. My husband's uniform was ruined. It could have been mine. I'm a nurse and my uniform probably would have been more expensive.
I use American Home Shield's online method of submitting claims. It's beautiful and I love it. I would click on whatever service I need for my appliance and that’s it. It's very easy instead of having to wait seven hours for someone to get on the phone. It's very difficult to get through to them. The people who answer the phone were very professional but they weren't getting what I was saying. The different accounts that I have were throwing them off and it shouldn’t because I've been with them for years. They weren't probably looking at the numbers versus me verbalizing to them that it's two different accounts.
AHS should give us more opportunity where we could work something on the internet. They should also have a little more time for their customer and they have to remember this is a United Nation. I don't know if it's my accent or what. They weren't understanding. They should have patience. That would have solved everything. They were good in the beginning honestly, but then, in the end, they got too comfortable with me. And once they did, it's like I'm nothing. That's what I felt. So it's time for me to change and go to somebody else.

Purchasing a home is a stressful experience, especially when within a week of closing the HVAC system starts having issues. My real estate agent spoke so highly of AHS and the Real Estate Edition, even though I have not had great success with this organization in the past. But it has been several years, so I remained optimistic. I attempted to request service for my HVAC via the website, and due to the premium not being paid from the closing a week ago, I was unable. I attempted to call into the 1-800 number, and proceeded to wait over one and a half hours to speak to someone.
With no success, I took matters into my own hand and called a contractor out that I have used in the past. He was licensed and I trust his work from previous experience. He came on-site, worked on the system for several hours trying to get it to hold freon. After no success, he advised that with a system 15+ years old, replacing the compressor would just be a band-aid on the bigger issue. He also mentioned that the company who made the unit was no longer in business, and finding a replacement compressor could prove to be difficult. He told me he could replace the unit, and offered me a discount on the unit being a returning customer to him. Not something he had to do.
I then proceeded to email my real-estate agent and the "account manager" that was assigned to me when the plan was selected. As a typical corporate response, she initiated the communication via email with an apology and advised that she could enter a ticket, but since it was after hours it would be tomorrow before I would be contacted. The contractor that was assigned, has no website, no real email address, no listing with the Secretary of State for any type of licensing, and the state corporation’s division shows the company was administratively dissolved in 2016.
It is clear that AHS wants to make the process of home warranty as difficult as possible when a homeowner tries to follow the process. Additionally, the companies they select to complete the work on their behalf are not only not licensed, it appears they do not even operate legal businesses. I would urge caution letting someone unknown into your home to work on anything, especially without some sort of verification that they are a reputable company.

I got my house in 1993 and I had American Home Shield. There was a period of time that I was laid off so I canceled it but just as soon as I went back to work, I started it back up again. I've been a customer for like 25 years and I've recommended them to everybody. I tell them that AHS is the only way to go beyond now. If you own a house, you have to have some type of home warranty plan to help you with the maintenance. I've always had really good results with AHS and whenever I used them. 99% of the time, if something breaks down, I don't have $1000 or $2000 sitting there waiting to determine what it's going to cost and I'd never know.
For example, I had a problem with my washer where lint had gotten backed up in the drain where the washer flows into. After it would spin for a while, it would overflow. I had to stop the washer and let the water go down then start it back up again. I was afraid it was getting worse. The guy sent by AHS from Webb Plumbing came and ran a snake down. The service cost me $75 for that. And when my kitchen faucet was dripping, he brought in a new little thing. We could've done it for $75 but he went and got in there and said I needed that.
AHS is the only insurance that I have ever owned that doesn't penalize me when I use it. But I won't ever use their online service because if I do, then AHS won't let me choose which contractor is going to come out. They always try to send A1 to me and they're horrible. If A1 were the only people I could get, then I would give up my American Home Shield.
The contractor AHS sent for my washer was fantastic and they're the only people I'll use. I keep my receipts so that any time that I have to do something, I make sure I get the same people. They came out and worked on my refrigerator last year. A part went out and it was over a month that we were out of the refrigerator. American Home Shield said we could just do a buyout. But we told them we were fine without a refrigerator. They never one time failed to do anything. They were even sorry even though it was Samsung's fault. Samsung listed on their website the heater repair part for the freezer and AHS needed one for the refrigerator. But Samsung was dragging their butt getting the part to them. AHS couldn't do anything more than what Samsung could do.

I didn't have any help and I was laying up in my bed holding on for several hours because it was too cold for me to walk around and do anything in my house. Fifteen minutes is reasonable but two hours or more is way out of line. So AHS needs to have more people to answer the phone. Other than that, all the representatives that I talked to have been very good and very helpful. Plus, the contractor that came to my Raleigh home, Ian, was excellent. The contractor called us the same night we put in the request which was super nice. He was great. He had to go back to get a port but he came right back the same day, so it was very quick. I recently called in an air conditioner issue with American Home. It had previously been an air conditioner issue but apparently, it wasn’t. It was a frozen pipe issue. I got an automated response and the contractor that they sent was early. I’ve had him here before and he was fine. He was able to diagnose the problem in two minutes because I had the same problem as everybody else did. Those of us in the Southeast do not cover up something on the outside of the house because it doesn't get that cold and what it does is it causes something on the inside of the house to freeze. So, water drips out of the condensation unit, which is where I had issues before. Once it warmed up, it thawed out then that stuff was leaking water into my basement.
Another time, I was complaining because I wanted a silver microwave and not the black or white one that they were going to give me. AHS was supposed to give me an identical unit. They said that the units were identical but they were not. So, they told me that that I could buy it online, then they would install it. But once I bought the microwave online, they said they were no longer responsible. We had to go back and listen to the conversation where, in fact, they did tell me that I could buy it and they would install it. So, they had somebody come out and install it at their expense. But it took me a while to get it taken care of.
I've used AHS for a lot of years and I've had some issues with them in the past but for the most part, they've been okay. I tried talking a real live person and I am lucky if I get somebody after an hour. It was difficult to get the issue reconciled but I did get my issue reconciled. They owed me money. AHS is an expensive service. I'm paying $65 a month and I only use them once a year. But it's nice to have that in your pocket if you do have a very expensive service to get fixed. Also, there's a lot of hidden things. You’d think that you're covered for leakage and you're not. Nonetheless, I’m still satisfied with AHS.

American Home Shield had to send a contractor out to fix a broken faucet that was 21 years old. But they initially disputed my claim and they weren’t going to fix it so I had to call them a second time. I had a second plumber come out who talked with the Home Office at American Home Shield and they replaced my faucet. It wasn’t the greatest experience and at times, American Home Shield can be a difficult company to work with.
I had a phone conversation a couple of weeks ago with a young lady from AHS after I received an email, saying that my contract was eligible for rekeying. I thought that was great because it’s a rental property that the contract is on. But after I spoke with her, she came back and said I didn't qualify for it and that it was only for realtors. And I thought that was lousy. The email that I had clearly stated that I was eligible for it.
But otherwise, I had used them several times over the years and overall, they’re pretty good, except for some circumstances especially when you’re dealing with rental property. I have tenants that are coming down on me as a landlord and I need my home warranty company to expeditiously fix the items that are requested, as long as they’re within the contract boundaries, and they were. I should be taken care of as a business to a business client.

I am dissatisfied with American Home Shield. We most recently turned in a dryer and a refrigerator repair at the same time. I usually call them for claims and I had to wait for about 20 or 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone. You can't always handle everything online. There are some things that you need to talk to somebody. And to wait 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone is not good. But then, they're always really nice. They just didn't have good service.
They assigned Sears to come work on the dryer and they said somebody from GE would contact me for the refrigerator but GE never did. AHS should know whether the vendor contacted the customer because they've got to pay them. Then, for me to get it covered again, I had to call again and wait 30 minutes on the phone to get a representative from American Home Shield to assign it to somebody else. And they charged me another home visit which I shouldn't have had to pay because it was on the claim with the dryer. I already paid for it. They said they've gotten it taken care of but I just got another bill for it last week.
This issue has been ongoing for four or five months now. They had to order a door for the refrigerator so we're still waiting to be contacted by the vendor that they've received the door. Since then I've signed on with a different home warranty company but I'm hoping I'll get the refrigerator fixed from American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have experienced and the ongoing issue. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

My heat went out overnight. I called American Home Shield the next morning to have someone come and look at my HVAC system. Their contractor called and told me what time he could be here. He called when he was in the area and he called when he was here. He was here on time and he took care of the problem within an hour. I posted the request at about 6:00 in the morning and the contractor came within three hours which was great. He was very pleasant and he knew what he was doing. He went straight to work and he gave me some tips to look for if a problem happens in the future. He also told me that I could call them to see if I had any other problems and he would come back if I needed him to. He was very professional.
I would recommend American Home Shield, especially for someone who does not know anything about fixing appliances. It is very convenient. American Home Shield chooses great companies that come out and know what they are doing. They rarely have to come back a second or a third time. They are typically able to take care of the problem on the same day. American Home Shield is a good warranty as far as keeping up when you pay so much for your appliances. Having it is a good way to take care of your appliances.

We have used AHS several times and the warranty has value to us. When we filed a claim online for the filters in our pool area, the contractor that they sent took the filters apart and replaced the ones that were broken. He fixed everything that was needed then there was one other thing that he found that needed to be fixed and he fixed that at the same time. We were very satisfied with our experience.

I have a hard time getting AHS on the phone and it takes a while. One time, I stayed on the phone for an hour to get someone. Other than that, they have been fine every time I have been able to get them on the phone. I had it bad with my dryer and the tech came in, fixed my dryer and it's working well now. I also had somebody come out to help me get the filter inside of my air conditioner. There's a flap that I had to open up to put the filter in. I'm 61 years old and there is no way in the world I could do what the contractor said I could do. I've been meaning to call somebody out to look again but I have to pay $75 if somebody comes out.
Hello, Rosemary. I do hope you can get that filter installed. The policy itself does not cover for any maintenance type of work so I would hate for you to pay a service fee for that.

The tank with the stoppers wasn't working. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the rep got back to me quickly. The tech had to change the stopper and the pump inside the tank. He did a good job and finished the repair in half an hour. Sometimes I still have all the problems with the tank and I have to double-click on it to make sure the stopper works. Otherwise, the water is still leaking. But most of the time it's good.

I've had AHS since 2012. They’re easy to deal with and they usually get everything done. I can go online or make a phone call to make a schedule, and they'll have whoever is going to fix my things come out and take it from there. My washer stopped working correctly and I went online to make a claim. My washer also had an issue and the technician came out and checked both of them. He told me what he needed to do and left. He needed to order parts for both of them. When he came back, he brought the part, installed them and gave me a copy of the work order. But when I broke my faucet, I did not the vendor that AHS used and I asked them to never, ever have him be the person to work on anything for me. They haven't had him come back and other than that, I've had good experiences with AHS.

American Home Shield sent out contractors to fix my refrigerator and my stove. The two that came out did a great job. The refrigerator got fixed and it’s doing great. But the stove is still not fixed. Not all the parts got replaced to fix like I had explained to the guy who came out to fix it. He was okay but he was a bit distracted when he came because he had lost his wallet that morning. He kept on talking about it and was hoping he would get done in time to go retrace his steps, which I could understand. I tried to explain to him that day the problems I’m having with the oven, but it's still not baking like it should. Only half the stuff is turning out overbaked while the other stuff is not baking at all. And that was the same problem I had to begin with. So I don’t know whether it was him being distracted or what the problem was.
I've been with American Home Shield since 2014 and this is my second claim with them. They’ve been really great. I filed my claims on the phone and their reps were awesome. And if I could get my oven fixed or replaced so I could go back to doing the baking I love to do, it would be fantastic. I would tell my friends that American Home Shield has been very understanding and I’m happy with their service.

My fan on the ceiling screwed up and when the people AHS sent came to repair the fan, they discovered the fan hadn’t been installed properly. Now, the fan had been there for years and I didn’t know when the official code changed from just "put the fan up, putting it in a special square." They took the fan and they did not put it back so I paid the money and then I had to find somebody else. I had to buy another fan for the house and I had to find someone to put it in. It was a remote problem but by the time I knew it was a remote problem the fan was in pieces on the floor. That was not a very happy experience.
The next claim that happened, unfortunately, I wasn’t in town. My roommate was there when the tech came because my VAL heater, which is the main heat in the house, was not working. It's a wall heater and it's an old house. My roommate just went across the street to the neighbor's and when he got back the tech was gone. My roommate has been playing around with the heater, trying to make it work. He had taken the thermostat and installed a new one but we found out it wasn’t the thermostat. The heater itself would not turn on and the problem was with some kind of controller. Then, AHS contacted me and I asked when are they coming to replace it or do whatever they're going to do. AHS said the contractor canceled the appointment because it was denied.
The claim was denied because the case was that there was a missing thermostat and that's what was wrong with the wall heater, which is not true. Somebody somewhere read the tech's report and he said that the thermostat was sitting on a table. They interpreted that as, "That's why it's not working because the thermostat's not on the wall." The rest of the report stated that the controller was not working and he found the thermostat on the table. The first guy really did say what was wrong with it but whoever read the report didn’t read the whole report thoroughly.
It took a very long time for me to get them to decide to send another person out to take a look at it. When that person came out I had found a report of that other guy that had been in there and it said something about a controller. It's a very old house and it turns out that there's no way to get the controller without removing the whole thing. By removing the whole thing, there was no guarantee that something that was added was going to go back in. But in order to replace they had to make sure that it was broken. It was broken and it was not installed. A new one was required. However, these new gas connections and any adjustments to put the new flue in was extra. After all this I also had to pay almost $500.
Granted that's a whole lot less than having to replace it because the new heater would be $1,200 plus installation. I eventually get it but it was a Williams wall heater. It's almost like one of two wall manufacturers that even make this anymore. The thermostat that was provided with it, you could set the temperature but you couldn't see what the ambient temperature was to see if it was turned on at the right time. I ordered a replacement, Honeywell thermostat, that tells me the ambient temperature as well the setting. On the other hand the guy who eventually replaced the unit worked with me very carefully.
If something's going to be replaced, the required replacement should all be covered. I would expect that my warranty would replace a required thing and it didn’t because of paragraph number blah, blah. They very carefully read me the paragraph several times because that extra cost me an extra almost $500. I'm retired and my Social Security income is less than a $1,000. Now I have other income but it's not a retirement. It's because I happen to have an old house. The minute I sell that house I'm not going to get any more income except Social Security and my roommate who pays rent.

Originally, I called for service right around the holidays, but I did not get a call back from the assigned vendor. I called them a few times and I received an email that the service had been completed, so I called AHS and said that I had not received a call from the vendor and the service had not been completed. They then sent me to a different vendor who came out and quickly fixed the problem. Although they had to get the part and then come back another day to put it in, it was not a problem. The other claim was for a plumbing issue. We had a sewer smell coming out of my toilet. The plumber came and took a look but said that my coverage didn't cover smells. We did a few things to try to relieve the problem, but it did not work, so I just called my local plumber outside of Home Shield.
I did both claims online, which I liked. But I did not like that I can't add information about the problem. I basically just had to click on "furnace." You should be able to describe your problem or be more specific about what appliance and give more information instead of just clicking, "I'm having a problem with the toilet." Because that doesn't really describe the issue and it doesn't give the contractor any idea why or how long the service might take or what the issue was. On the whole, my home warranty has paid for itself. But one has to be very careful because some of the vendors they send out are really sketchy and creepy. I've had a couple of very sketchy vendors and I have said that I'm not working with those people anymore. But some were generally fine.

Our microwave suddenly stopped working. I followed the power cord as far as I could but I didn’t look any further. Then, I tried all kinds of switches and everything on the wall was working, so I didn’t think it could be electric. I then called AHS and submitted a claim. The rep that I talked to was very good. She was very quick to ask the right kind of questions. She told me that I would hear from the appliance service center and they called.
The contractor then came out when he said he would. He called 15 minutes before he came to confirm. He was very business-like. Within five minutes of him being here, he found where the cord went to. It was in the back of the closet with a bunch of cups and glasses covering it. He told me that it could have been a broken slip circuit breaker. We then went to the actual circuit breaker and sure enough, that was it. It was just a loss of power. He then fixed it right away. I was happy to know that the microwave was on its own breaker on that wall.
Having AHS gives me a sense of security and makes me feel less anxious when something goes wrong. Originally, I thought, "Do we really need this? This place is not old." My washing machine stopped spinning so I went online and got a really speedy response from American Home Shield. I generally don’t like stuff like that because I prefer to speak to a human being but I immediately got a text message, "Yes, we received your inquiry.” They gave me the name of the company, GL Appliance, and said they would be contacting me. That happened the next day so that process is fine. GL Appliance came out and the young man said, "I can tell you what it is right away. You're using too much soap. I've seen this a lot." He did some digital and electronic stuff with the machine and he ran it through a couple of cycles and said it was fine. However, the first time I used it, it wouldn't spin. Although I prefer to speak to a human being especially since I had the problem when I realized that the machine wasn’t working, I wasn’t sure where to go from there so I started by calling GL, but they said I had to go back to AHS.
I had to go back and forth a little bit but now I know that if I have any other issues, to come back to AHS directly. AHS immediately hooked me up with Golden Appliance, which is also local to Fredericksburg, and a really nice guy came out. He worked on it for about an hour and said, "It's the cam." He found it almost right away. He fitted up the bottom machine and kept asking me questions like what I was hearing, and beyond it doesn’t spin. He went out to his truck, got the part, put it in, ran a couple of cycles and it's been working fine. I've run five loads since he fixed it.
This is the first time I've used AHS and it's good. I like it considering I had to go through two companies and get a part. The $100 service charge was reasonable because if I had gone to two independent companies when you consider labor plus the cost of the part, it would have been much more than that. I've had other companies when I moved to other regions that do the same thing and so far, this one has been really good. American Home Shield is awesome and their service was excellent.

We've had a couple of calls to American Home Shield in the last few months. One of the calls was for our dishwasher which was not working properly. The company they sent out determined what needed to be done but when the next gentleman came out to actually fix it he didn’t do the other item the first gentleman wrote down. He just replaced a rubber around our dishwasher. And it seemed like he still invoiced them for what was originally said that needed to be done. So I called the company to let them know and they said that as long as they come out, they didn’t care much about whether they did everything that was supposed to have been, as long as it was working. We can use our dishwasher now but it still doesn’t work properly. We can close the door, press the button for it to come on and it doesn’t come on. It's like it kicks it off. It takes a while then we'll try it again. And then it will work.
And the problem now is that we had paid the $100 but AHS keep saying they didn’t get the $100. So, I called the company that came out and they said, "Yes, we did send it to them." And so, my husband has been taking care of that with AHS but it's hard to get someone at customer service. He might be on the phone an hour or so. They need to revamp their customer service line.

I have been a member of American Home Shield for several years and so far, it gives me a lot of security that nothing can happen that won't be able to be fixed quickly. Recently, I came home on a really cold night from work and we had no heat. So I called American Home Shield and someone responded and I told them there's wrong with the heat pump that is associated with a particular furnace. We got a call very shortly after that from someone from a local company who said they would be out the next day, early in the morning, to resolve it and they came.
We have a dual heating system, so we were able to stay in the home because we could go to another location in the house where the heat was working well. We have a furnace there so this was more of the heat pump that covers upstairs. When the technician arrived, he did his due diligence and in a few minutes, he told us there was something wrong with the thermostat that had been improperly wired in the upstairs unit. We always had a problem with getting good heat up here in the winter time. Even when I would put on emergency heat, it seemed like it was overcompensating on the unit. But we never thought about it. We had guards come through routinely. We also have a contract with another company called SMO and they come out twice a year to inspect our equipment and our systems and make sure everything is functioning right. They've always thought everything's fine.
So this technician rewired the thermostat and then he went down to the pump and said that the motor had gone in the heat pump. I got to replace that. When he did those things, we've had heat and we haven't had any problems since then. In addition to this, whoever I interacted with at AHS was perfect. There was never any questions. They looked at my contract and made sure that I was entitled to the service I was requesting. Once they confirmed that, they said someone would call me and everything went smoothly. Overall, I had really superb service, especially with this experience. The response was prompt and there was a quick turnaround, especially over a weekend. And the gentleman that came in handled himself and explained everything to me. I thought I had to pay him for something but he said I just paid the deductible and everything was covered.
Hello, Sullivan. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience. So glad that the technicians figured out your issue and got it repaired.

If a problem comes up, it's very easy to use American Home Shield's online system. So, when my house wasn’t heating right, I went online and had someone have it checked because everybody was cold. They then assigned a vendor that could help with the house and take a look. When they came out, I had already made my $75 co-pay and they told me that the heater is running, so they're not supposed to work on it. That was the first thing they said. So I told them just because it's running it doesn’t mean it's producing any heat. Then, they went up and looked and there's a sensor for the heater that was dirty. They said that was a homeowner responsibility and for them to clean it, there's an extra charge.
While the contractor wasn't rude, they figured they could make a few extra bucks by charging somebody for money. I was more interested in getting the house warmer than I was about cleaning it. Additionally, they charged an extra fee, which wasn’t something that they were supposed to service. And I've never had this problem with any other service people that came out to my house when I called American Home Shield. So I would look for that company’s name if they put it on, I would say no and ask them to send somebody else. I went through the automated system when I filed a claim to AHS for our leaking water heater. Sometimes, when I go online, it’s tricky how to pick things, but other than that, even when I’m speaking to a representative, or calling directly and using the automated system, I’ve never had any kind of problems with filing a claim. Every contractor that they sent out for me has been excellent. I’ve had problems like plumbing, refrigeration and dishwasher and the contractors were all prompt, on time and they called back. We just had an air-conditioning system put in and the guy that they sent out was amazing.
But I’ve only had one contractor I had a problem with when I had some issues with my washer and dryer. It took them a month to fix my washer. They came out three times. They didn’t fix the washer properly the first time they came out. It ran for a while and then they had to come back out again. It took them a month to fix it. They came back out when we had issues with the dryer and it took them many times to fix the dryer. So, I didn’t want them back to my home, but for some strange reason, AHS kept sending those particular people back, so I wasn’t too happy when it came to my washer and dryer.
I understand small businesses need help and everybody needs a chance. But if someone is telling them that they don’t want these people in their home because they’re not comfortable with their job, then AHS should be taking note. Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a leak in our sink in the bathroom downstairs. The claiming process went fine. My wife called and used AHS' automated system. Then we were contacted within a day to tell us who was going to be the repair person coming and set up the appointment. She was very gracious and professional and my wife felt very comfortable talking to her.
The contractor was very professional in his tone of voice and was as cordial as he could be considering what he had to work with. The original piping was brass and he explained that they no longer install that anymore at least not for repair so they used a flexible piping. The length that was needed to fix it was only 12 inches but the only tubing the plumber had on his truck was 20 inches.
It’s been working fine since the repair but the overall appearance is not the most desirable. When I look straight to the sink, the piping won't be seen but when I’m sitting on the toilet, I could see on the side that it was looped around from both the hot and the cold pipes behind the pedestal which left an unsightly exposure on our pedestal sink. Also, when he had the pipes loose, the valves were off but there would be some lingering water in the piping from the faucet to the valve. He either could have a towel or asked me for one because the water spilled on the floor and we have hardwood in that bathroom. But I was able to give him a towel for when he disconnected the second one.
My only thing with this type of policy is that I don't get any proactive work. When there is something to be repaired, as long as they could repair it, then it is fine. However, as far as the replacement part of it, especially for an older equipment, they wouldn't do it unless it's unrepairable. But other than that, I would still recommend them to a friend.

We were referred to American Home Shield by our realtor as she's had it for over 20 years. She said if we didn’t buy it, she would pay half of it because she felt that strongly about the company. However, it's been a little dicey because they don’t cover anything that's not in the main home. We have a detached garage and a garage apartment above the garage which is part of our home. The first request I made had to with a water pipe in our garage and they ended up saying they weren’t going to cover it because it wasn’t in the main home. But it was a washer and dryer so, it set me off on a bad start with them.
My realtor said, "You need to re-engage with them because they'll try to do something like that but if you re-engage, they often will relent and see that they really should be taking care of it." This wasn't disclosed to us when we bought our house. They also weren’t even able to snake the pipe in the garage apartment or in the garage. It's downstairs and it's not in the apartment itself where we have the washer and dryer hooked up. We've learned since that they actually had to redo the foundation and half of our garage. We just moved in and we bought our house in April. Our house was unoccupied for a year and a half so, a lot of it is burping the system and getting our house going again.
Recently, we were living in Germany and my sister and her family were here this summer and occupied our home. Our septic pipe broke and I submitted the claim over the phone since we were in Germany for Christmas. Then our house guest informed me the night we were coming back that the water well pump was also broke. I was frantic and in a panic because I didn’t know what was wrong. I didn’t know what to tell the rep other than the two things that my house sitter had told me. The rep said, "I need to know what to put in the computer. Is it the water well pump or is it the septic tank?" The call was going south very quickly and I asked to speak to her supervisor. She changed her tone at that point and we were okay. Their reps need to realize that they're dealing with people that are under stress when these people are calling about something that's gone wrong with their house.
We got home from the flight and the contractor was finishing. It was really cold so it was a delayed amount of time for the glue to dry on the septic pipe and the water well pump guy came while we were in the air. He left me several messages but I couldn’t answer my phone. The contractors we were able to meet were both great. Plus the website is very user-friendly. I'm also very glad that the pool is included in the warranty because that too has been an issue. We think we have a crack in it and we had someone that was honest to look at it yesterday. He said I might have a clogged outlet valve. Every contractor that American Home Shield uses, we've been very pleased with.

American Home Shield’s online submission was good. I tried to call first, but I sat on the phone for 45 minutes and finally hung up. The contractor came and they said they fixed the leak, but they didn’t turn the hot water back on. Once we turned it back on, it was still leaking. They came back and fixed it and said they were supposed to replace the sink for them to fix the faucet. They didn’t and then, they did. It was frustrating. It took longer than we would have liked and they had to come back multiple times. We also had a little bit of trouble with the plumber at first since he was unprofessional. He was cussing in front of my child and made me uncomfortable.
I called American Home Shield to tell them about it and that he didn’t even fix the problem when he was here. AHS said that we still had to use him and we couldn’t go with a different company because it was still within the 60 or 90-day window of their warranty. In order to get somebody back out there to fix it, it would have to be the same people. So, my husband took off work so he could be here, and that plumbing company gave our appointment away to somebody. I would have never given them my money for them to come back in my house. The contractors were really aggressive. When I looked at their reviews online, a ton of people had the same kind of complaints and the owner of that company was arguing with them on a public forum.

Every time I used my warranty with American Home Shield, I have not been disappointed. They always find someone who is dependable and trustworthy to the job for me. Recently, I had a plumbing issue with a diverter in the shower. I tried to submit the claim online but there was nothing that really described what the problem was. So I called and the lady put it in for me. She was very polite and was very good about helping me. We figured out what I needed then the contractor came within a day or two. The contractor was very nice. He checked several things to narrow down the problem and the plumbing has been working very well since. I would highly recommend American Home Shield.
Hi, Jossie. I am so happy to hear that you are enjoying the services through our warranty. Thank you for letting us know how well we have been doing.

My husband is in the military and apparently there are a lot of people talking about American Home Shield and always recommending them. We have American Home Shield and they ended up replacing our 12-year-old washer in our most recent claim. It was making noises and it was cheaper to replace than repair. I always submit a claim online since no one picks up when I do it over the phone, and there was a time I was on hold for 40 minutes. Submitting online is easier. The contractors that American Home Shield sent out were good and very accommodating. For the 2 claims I submitted, the experiences were very professional. They came in on time and made sure that we knew what was going on. I recommended them to 7 people already and I like their $25 gift card.

My wife was satisfied with AHS the first year we had them when the microwave failed. We also called them to unscrew our heating and AC's fake cover which needed precision screwdrivers. However, in one of our claims, we had to have another plumber come out because the first plumber, C & P Plumbing, only tightened a knot which compressed the washer more. Inside of a faucet is an inner fit neck and when I turn the faucet on, that part keeps the water from going to the handle. But every time it gets compressed, it gets worn out. What they really needed to do was take the unit apart and replace the washer because that was the problem to start with.
It took a long time for the wife to tell AHS that it was on the hot water side. It also took a long time to realize that what he did didn’t work. We had to call back and the plumber had to go under the house to cut the water off just to replace the washer. The two plumbers who came out said it would only take a month. I was not happy about AHS' service on that.
Also, the year before that, we were having a backup in the master bathroom. C & P Plumbing snaked it out and said that we didn’t have a problem. But it kept backing up and the last time, it over flooded and got under the tiles around the toilet so they cut out a circle around the toilet to set the toilet and so the drainage would get down The wife cleaned up as best she could but it got up under the tiles and in a few weeks it started stinking like a cat. AHS told me that it was not a commercial toilet and that they wouldn't be covering the damage on and around the toilet. We were going to remodel our bathroom because that was one of my wife’s big plans since our hose is 35 years old already. It was very high on the list because it was hard for me to get in and out of the shower, but we weren’t looking to do it so soon.
I was really upset because we didn’t have enough money to be doing that at that time because we just hadn’t saved up enough money. My wife works two jobs to take care of me because I’m 100% disabled. We’ve been saving for tax returns for several years and also got a loan to get into this house. We tried to get them to pay just to do the floor and asked them to pay half of it but they said they weren’t going to pay a penny. And the worst thing was that because we had to deal with the contractor to do the work, they wouldn’t cover the toilet we had just put in because it wasn’t a licensed plumber who did it which was ridiculous.

American Home Shield compensated me fully for the purchase and installation of a new faucet since the two contractors they had originally assigned to the job were not willing to touch the faucet. One claiming it was a specialty item and the other claiming we had mold under the sink. I wish it had not taken two full months to end this process but once their corporate resolution team got on the job they came through.

After 25 years of dealing with American Home Shield, I am no longer interested in their services. Their phone service has gotten worse and worse throughout the years. Their reps are basically script readers and they’re not there to help anybody do anything. They steer you to their website, which is okay. I’m the director of information security for a large agency and I know my way around the computer, but sometimes their website is obtuse. I needed help but I have never gotten any luck with them by calling and having someone speak to me right away. There is usually a half hour wait on the phone, and then they switch me to here and switch me to there. It’s not a good experience. I have used them on two out of my three properties and had to cancel because they were unresponsive.
Their contract has gotten more and more expensive and I have spent a lot of money. I pay for the entire year. We started paying very little, but their monthly fee has tripled. I now pay $75 a month. I know things go up in price so I di not mind. However, any time I have a service call, I have to pay another $75, when it used to be $25 per services call. Nevertheless, AHS has a very good appliance service provider. Whenever we needed appliance service, the same company comes out and they have done a good job. We were happy with that part of the service and not everything has been bad. They have been good, but overall, their services have declined. My recent experience was the icing on the cake and the cherry on top.
On January 4th, we noticed that we had a leak in the kitchen faucet and we asked American Home Shield for a plumber. The plumber came after several calls, but he said, “I can’t touch that. The fixture is protected by a lifetime warranty.” He wouldn’t even look at it or tell us what was wrong. We called the manufacturer, which was local, but they didn't make that part anymore. They said that the broken part is a generic part and I could get it there then the plumber can install it. I called the plumbing company but they said they cannot install local parts. It was like a vicious circle. I told AHS that they have to do something since the plumber won't repair my faucet.
The plumber also noticed a small leak underneath the sink but said that it was inconsequential. It flooded the inside of the cabinet but we didn't know since don’t go in there all the time. Moreover, we have bottles in there in front and it was leaking towards the back. I said, "Okay," then called American Home Shield again. We went around and around. They said that the plumber couldn’t take off the fixture for me to have it fixed. On top of that, I got a $700 water bill because of the leak. AHS sent a second opinion plumber. The plumber said, “I can’t touch that. There’s mold in there. I’m going to send the mold remediation company.” He sent the mold remediation company who said, “You have to call your insurance company since it’s major. We’re going to tear up the whole kitchen.” I said, "No."
I called the insurance company and they sent their own drying out company that they paid without costing me anything. It’s a small area underneath the sink and they’re evaluating the situation to see if I need a complete mold remediation process. It is now February 17th and I don’t have a sink. It has been a month a half and American Home Shield said they do not touch mold. They do not do this and they do not do that. I said, “Okay, then. I don’t need you. Goodbye.”

I had a heating issue and I submitted a claim with AHS. One of the pieces that were in the back of the heating unit stopped working. The tech had to take a poke and sandpaper it down. After that, I had no issues with it. The only downside is that when I call, I'm on hold for a whole hour. I'd call, leave a work order and they'd call me right back. So after that, I decided to go online.
Hello, Julius. I do understand that the hold times can be a big turn-off. We are working to completely staff our call centers. Our hope is that when you do need to call us, you are not holding for an hour. Thank you for letting us know that your furnace work order was taken care of with no issues.

In November, I got an error code on my washer. I called in a service request with American Home Shield then they sent someone out and fixed it. In December, I hadn't really washed any laundry but I got another error code. So the contractor came out again and AHS covered the repair because it was within 70 days of the original call. That happened a couple more times. Finally, AHS decided that it would be a better idea to replace it. They sent me an option and they told me to either accept it or not. I accepted it and they got me a new washer.
I filed the very first claim online but each one after that had to be done over the phone because I was going off of an existing claim. The hold times are ridiculous and I wish there was a better way to file online. But their reps were all very nice. I was emailing one person and sometimes I would not get a response but if I CC that person, I would get an immediate response. Also, everyone who came was nice. The appliance guy explained to me what he was doing, and he wanted to make sure that I was aware and that I agreed. When the new washer was installed, the people who delivered and installed had knocked the vent off when they moved the dryer a little. But I had my dad fix it, so it's not a problem anymore. The washer is now performing really well. AHS is definitely worth the money because it saved me a lot of money.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim when our refrigerator wasn’t working right and the electricity went out in the outlets in the kitchen. The reps were really good and fast about getting somebody to contact us. The contractor that they sent out to fix the issue was great. The two electricians that came out were done in five minutes. They just had to replace the little outlet where we press the button and the electricity turns back on. The techs that worked on the refrigerator consisted of a man and a woman. They were here longer and they had to replace something in the refrigerator, but they were great and everything worked terrific after the repair. AHS did a great job and I’d tell people to get them.

I called American Home Shield on a washer that wasn’t draining properly and they said they would have someone come out and they’d contact us within 24 to 48 hours. I was contacted later on that day. Later that evening, I noticed that my icemaker wasn’t working properly, so I called the company they were sending out and they were able to take care of the two appliances. The washer was taken care of within 48 hours, but they had to order a part for the icemaker from the refrigerator. I was also shown what to do in the meantime because it was leaking. A bit of water was causing the arm not to work properly for the icemaker. I have recommended AHS to a couple of people, and I used them a couple of years ago for the same washer. The repair was made in a timely fashion and there were no problems for a couple of years. I'm 69 years old and I don’t have a whole lot of money. I'd rather pay a little bit each month than to pay it all at one time.

We have a house rented by a single mother of four, and the heat went out during the freezing time. American Home Shield sent out a company the next day after we called, which was great. But the company said that American Home Shield won’t cover the issue, but they would charge us $750 to do it. They were trying to get my tenant to do it right then and there and were convincing me to do it as well. He spent 10 minutes looking at it and then left. It was not a $750 problem and they were being ridiculous. We knew what he said was wrong and that the needed claim was not covered under the warranty. So, we called an outside company. They came in and looked at it and said that the guy did absolutely nothing, and he didn’t even look at it because it wasn’t even dirty. So, what the first guy said was false, and he also said he turned off the machine which he did not do either.
The outside company that we had wrote a very detailed report of what they did and what they found upon their conclusion. Nothing was wrong except it needed to have Freon taken out of it. So, even though Freon itself is not covered by the warranty, they could take it out. I called American Home Shield and told them that I’m not asking for a reimbursement of my $300 that I had to spend on the outside technician, but I’m asking for a reimbursement of $75 fee for having the company come out that didn’t do anything. And American Home Shield said that the company did, but they could’ve fixed the problem that same day and the guy just didn’t want to do it. So I just gave up. I called them for weeks and there were records, and I even sent them the email with the detailed invoice from my guy and I still have a copy of the invoice from the company that they sent out. But I haven't heard anything back so it puts a sour taste in my mouth.
This was the first bad experience we’ve had which was why it hit so hard. We’ve been using American Home Shield for years. My mom used them for eight years before I started using them and she’s never had a problem. They’ve been very communicative and reassuring and on point. But I’m still going to use American Home Shield and they’re still a great company. They just have to have better steps for customers to take in terms of reporting a fraudulent or inadequate company that comes through the property. But if it happens again, I’m definitely going to have to cut ties.

American Home Shield sent somebody out to fix the plumbing, and the plumbers said they couldn’t fix it. If they're a plumber, they should know how to do plumbing. I was very disappointed to spend $75 on doing nothing. So I hired somebody else (not through AHS) to come and all they had to do is make an adjustment on the hose bib. AHS sometimes works and sometimes, it doesn't.

Every year, I have someone come out and check to make sure my heating is working properly. Then recently, when that person came out to look at it, he said there was something wrong with the board. It needed to be repaired before they could do any inspection. So I called American Home Shield to submit a ticket. I tried it online and got assigned a repairman and he gave me the name and number of the vendor. After three days have passed and I didn't hear from him, I attempted to contact them but I didn’t get any answers from that vendor as well. So I called back American Home Shield and I ended up talking to a representative who also attempted to reach out to the vendor and they couldn’t get any response too.
At that point, they reassigned a new vendor but then, a couple of days had passed and I didn't hear from them also. So I eventually called and the guy came out. He looked at it, checked, and then he said that whatever the repair was he didn’t have the parts. He had to order them. Then he called back about a week later and told me that Home Shield said it was too expensive to repair so they were going to replace it. Almost a month had already passed and I still don't have heat and it was starting to get cold. About a week before Thanksgiving, I was at a banquet when I got a call. They were saying they're going to replace it, however, I was going to incur a fee because of the way the heater is located in my house. It required a lot of moving. So they told me how much it was going to be. I said that's fine and they said I'll be hearing from someone.
And then about a month had passed again and I kept calling. I called the vendor and they told me they haven't heard anything. I called American Home Shield and they haven't heard anything as well. By now, it was about a week before Christmas and I live in Chicago where it was below zero temperatures. They eventually called and told me they would do the major replacement a couple of days before Christmas. So I took off from work to set things up and made sure I was home. They said I need to be home all day. The guy showed up that morning as planned but he got a perplexed look on his face so I asked what's wrong. It turned out, he didn't have the furnace.
So I was back doing several calls to American Home Shield trying to figure out what happened. Apparently, the warehouse where the furnace went to said it had been sitting there a couple of days after Thanksgiving and they sent it back because no one came to pick it up. And everybody was pointing fingers. American Home Shield was saying they never got a notification that it was there. They called and everybody said it's not in. So I had to end up doing another order and I ended up not getting it done until after Christmas. It was just so cold that weekend that I had to stay at a hotel and other days I had to stay with friends and family.
They did come out two days later after Christmas and that's when they finally installed it. It was almost a two-month odyssey before it got resolved. While it's now working fine, it was horrible. I had a couple of close friends that I had recommended to American Home Shield. I had sent them a referral and they were very interested in signing up. But after explaining my odyssey, both of them changed their minds because of it. Overall, I have dealt with American Home Shield before and I've never had any issues. It was prompt and they came out and did what they were supposed to do. This one was a comedy of errors.

My water heater quit working so I put in a claim on American Home Shield's online system and their website was easy to navigate. American Home Shield was awesome but then the company that they partnered with took a little bit longer to get back to me than like the other experiences I’ve had. Still, they had called and showed up at my house and had done all the work behind the scenes with American Home Shield. I’ve taken pictures and I sent the company a bunch of information about my water heater and showed them pictures of what I thought was happening and the description that I had detailed to them. And they came out prepared for the worst case situation which was the replacement of the water heater. There were two representatives who came out from the company and they brought the backup water heater with them. My water heater ended up having to be replaced with a brand new one.
I tell everybody that they should have American Home Shield if they’re a homeowner. It’s amazing that American Home Shield insured us and I recommend them to everybody. I feel like the money that comes out of my checking account every single month paid for itself. And it’s relatively inexpensive for a situation that comes up that most of the time, the majority of people don’t have money in the bank for. So, it’s kind of a little built-in savings account for one's appliances, furnace, or water heater.

I made a claim last year about some air-conditioning unit that was broken and it took American Home Shield around three months in summer and a hundred calls just to give me an answer and fix my unit. Summer in San Antonio, Texas is like hell so it was really frustrating and my wife was really angry. It was 90 degrees inside the house and it was impossible to live in it. I made the claim online, then everything else was done by calling. I called at least once every day and then, they sent a company who gave them the result. American Home Shield kept on sending somebody else in a month.
They needed to talk to some supervisor and that supervisor was supposed to call me. However, I only received two calls from them in the whole three months. I tried to contact the supervisor but it was almost impossible to talk to somebody that had any positive answer. I needed to wait and check with our technician, then the technician needed to check with the authorization department, and the authorization department needed to go back to a technician. So there was a lot of paperwork or bureaucracy. But the good thing was they always had somebody pick up the phone. Finally, I talked to somebody who took my case because he knew that it was a big case and it was three months long trying to fix it. Then, they sent me a check after that. They replaced one of the units and fixed the older one.
There were three companies that came and explained everything to me. They told me that American Home Shield sends them to me and they try to fix the orders in the cheapest way with parts that are not original. They get the parts from China. And if the parts get broken again in two months, they would try to fix it again in the cheapest way. They also told me that they wouldn’t recommend the things they were doing to my unit if I had a contract with them because it was a 50-year-old unit and putting a $1,000-part in it wouldn’t work because they knew that there was no life in the unit anymore. Their recommendation was to change the unit. But they couldn’t do anything because they needed American Home Shield’s approval.
The business model that works for AHS does not work for the clients. So I hired a contractor by myself, took the money from AHS and did the right thing. The minimum charge was $100 which was expensive. But after I talked to everybody there, they finally paid for the units. So if people were not persistent like me, definitely, American Home Shield would not pay. I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield. I could save the monthly payment and take the risk that if something breaks in my house, I could have it fixed with the money that I would be saving every month.
I understand your concerns with the service fee cost and the ongoing issues that you have experienced to have your air conditioner unit repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues you have experienced.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and as a realtor, I have recommended American Home Shield to my clients. I don’t think anybody else could be better than them. One time, when my stainless steel refrigerator went out, AHS's guidelines state that they would give me one with the same features that I had. A white refrigerator has the same feature as a stainless steel but stainless steel is better. So I had to pay the differences and it has always been that way on things they can’t fix.
However, when I needed the AC recently, it wouldn’t come on and would just blow hot air just like the heater was telling. When it went up to 80 degrees with five more degrees up, I cut the system off. So, I called AHS and then I got a call back from Total Air. AHS was very nice but very hard to contact. I also had a problem with the first technician. The scheduled time was between 12 o’clock and 4 o’clock, but there was no show so I called and he said that he would be here at six o’clock. I stayed there all afternoon which wasn’t a pleasant time and then it was 10 o’clock.
I then got a message from Total Air that the technician would reschedule. I called back and found out that the technician said that he came to Total Air and everything was working fine. I told them that no one ever showed to my house at all and that they better check on their technician to see. If he did come, he never went to the door, which didn’t make sense. I told them that I’ve never had a situation in the past where any heat and air company would not have the technician knock at the front door and discuss the problem. So since they were rescheduling, I told them that I didn't want the same guy to come.
The next guy who came out was great and he told me that it needed some kind of board since it was ice outside. The air-conditioning didn’t come on since it was unplugged so it was obvious that the first technician never came because he would’ve seen that based on what the second technician said. The next guy couldn’t solve it though because it was late when he got out and they had to order a part. Him and the second technician were both good but the first guy should have been chastised to find out what happened.

We had a problem with the heat and air-conditioning working properly. When I submitted the claim, the experience was horrible. They asked if it was a heating or air-conditioning and I said that I don’t know because both of them were coming out of the vent so I don’t know how to assign it. I said, “Whichever way works to be able to have the guy come out that came out last summer.” They said that because our unit was installed the previous summer, we would have to go through the manufacturer and not through them. I was on hold a long time for each one of the four calls that I had all together. The girl that I spoke with first assured me that I was doing the right thing by making another phone call to the manufacturer. Then, in the meantime, they would have the previous installer from the summer before, call me with that information so that I can talk to the manufacturer in a satisfactory way.
I got a call from the installer immediately and he said, “No. The manufacturers don’t send anybody up. It doesn’t work that way. I need to come out and take a look at it and if there’s a problem that’s related to the manufacturing warranty, then I’ll contact them and we’ll go from there.” I said, “Okay. So let me call back American Home Shield again.” I called, talked to the first person, and I was on hold forever. They had to do research online with their research department. Then the research department said that I have to go to the manufacturer. I told him I’ve been told that the manufacturer does not send out anybody to the site and it was clear that I made the purchase last summer, it was not functioning. All AHS needed to do was send the guy out that worked on it last year.
Everywhere I turn, they tried to avoid doing the right thing. Instead of the AC problem, which was over a year ago, we had the outside air-conditioning piece fixed. They picked heating which was not necessarily the right thing and it turned out it was an AC related thing. I told them that I’ve had enough of waiting for this and it was clear what the right thing to do was so we could either do it the hard way or do it in any way. I told them I was happy to contact a lawyer and would do whatever I have to in order to make sure we get this thing done. Within 10 seconds, the girl came back and said that they’ve decided to approve my request. All of a sudden, because I was going to make this thing, they decided to go forward with it. The guy that installed it the previous summer came out and fixed it. He doesn’t speak English very proficiently, but he was thorough and awesome. He found the part that was causing a problem and got several things.
AHS had a hard time doing the right thing all along and they never did what they say they were going to do. They pass you off to somebody else and end up making repeated phone calls. They never passed me to a supervisor and it was a waste of time. They ended up doing the right thing and produced a satisfactory result but the process to get there was a nightmare. I was very disappointed and disgusted by the whole thing.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for a heating unit. I submitted it over the phone and their reps helped me when I didn't know what to explain and walked me through the process. About five minutes later, the company that was going to repair the unit called and we set up a date and time. Then the technicians came, repaired it, and it worked. They were knowledgeable, pleasant, and they knew what they were doing. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. Their contractors came when they said they were and their reps were very polite and always put me in touch with a contractor.

We had a policy with American Home Shield for quite a while. Our washing machine broke and we made a claim. I prefer calling them because it’s easier for me to get my words out than to type it. I spoke with their representatives and they were positive and good. They asked questions and told us the timeline. They hired a subcontractor to come in and the contractor was the one who did our refrigerator one-time. They came this time for the washing machine and they were really good and positive.
They were not able to fix the washer. AHS issued us a check and we had the check within 7 to 10 days. So, we went out and bought a new washer. It has been a pretty positive experience all in all. Although, we’ve had other people come out for a pump issue in our swimming pool that needed to be fixed and the contractors weren’t as positive. They told us to just clean our filter then left us a note and left. We ended up resolving the pool issue ourselves.

My furnace quit working during the coldest day of the year. I called American Home Shield and they set everything up and went from there. The contractor was very professional. They came in and went through the system, ran a bunch of tests and determined what the problem was. They had to order a part and said it may take up to two days to get, but they had it the next morning. I was very pleased. I'm a retired contractor myself and I've worked with a lot of guys who do this kind of work and they were real good. They took care of everything that they had to deal with down there, and now the furnace works great.

American Home Shield is great overall, but trying to deal with customer service was horrible. We filed a claim because my dishwasher wasn't working. We had someone come to work on it and they decided it was irreparable. We submitted a claim online since calling in was a horrible experience. The shortest hold time was 45 minutes, while the longest was an hour and a half. Since I needed a dishwasher, I wouldn’t give up. Other than that, the contractors they sent were great.

The dishwasher was not drying the dishes and it was becoming fairly loud. The dispenser wasn’t opening all the way and when you open the door, you would hear it snap all the way open. There was also water in the bottom of it. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and their website was okay. It took the technician 24 hours to get to my property and he was professional and courteous but seemed to be in a bit of a rush. The issue is still not fixed and I’m still waiting for another appointment and more parts. I’ve had three subsequent appointments for technicians to come out with a different diagnosis and different parts. I had an appointment last Monday with a window from 1:00 to 5:00 but it was a no show, no call from them so it’s been a train wreck. Having a warranty on your property is valuable when you need it but it’s a pain and very difficult process to go through. I would tell others to steer clear of American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the dishwasher repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help reach a resolution.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. When we bought the house, the Realtor had American Home Shield as an option for home warranty so we took it. I'm not mechanically inclined at all, so we continued to renew our warranty with them. We have been in this house since February of '05 and we have placed a half dozen calls. Recently, our dishwasher died. I went over the phone to submit a claim and their rep was professional. The technician came out very timely after my call and surveyed the problem and determined that it was a switch contact issue and repaired it on the spot. It has been working great ever since. While mechanical devices frustrate me and sometimes, dealing with the paperwork and the qualifications, there are rules and procedures that the host goes through.

I had a leaking copper pipe that was dripping on my furnace. The contractors AHS sent out cut part of the façade. They had to order a part and in a couple of days, they got the pipe fixed. I have always had good luck with American Home Shield. They typically send out someone the next day, but no longer than two days. Moreover, sometimes they are able to send someone on the same day.
The contractors they've sent have always been courteous and polite. If they're going to be late, they call and apologize. I've had furnaces, water heaters and central air units replaced as well as garbage disposals and toilets repaired. I've never had a bad experience nor a bad contractor. They've always been good. Moreover, this recent guy they sent was really good. He was from Billy O's Plumbing, which was excellent. I recommend American Home Shield to people all the time. The $45 a month is worth it, especially if one is in an older house.

My heating unit stopped working. It was just blowing cool air continually and would not turn off. I logged on to the American Home Shield website to submit a claim for it. Then, the contractor contacted us and set up a time shortly afterwards. He was out within the day. He found that it was something with the circuit board on the unit, so he replaced that. It was working but then it happened again, so we had to call an electrician. When we contacted the electrician, we had to call the AHS customer service to let them know what we were requesting. Contacting their customer service was very easy and respectful. They even stayed on the line, called the electrician and helped coordinate that appointment there on the phone. It was very convenient to get that resolved. The contractors that they sent were very good and professional. They identified the issues and fixed it pretty quickly. I would have them out again if I have the option to.
My limited experience with AHS has been good. As far as corresponding and communicating with AHS, it has always been very quick, efficient and quiet. The contractors would then essentially follow up and confirm appointments to us and come out. AHS helps facilitate getting the people to fix the issues pretty quickly which I appreciate. They were helpful in getting the callbacks straightened out and to make sure that we have the correct issues identified. They were responsive and easy to deal with. With them, it is easy to get the service out to the house and get the problem resolved.

There was a leak in our bathroom so I called AHS and submitted the claim on the automated system. The contractor then came out in a couple of days and she was really good. They were going to get a new faucet but they couldn’t find the same color of faucet any longer. It was an antique brass gold that matched the sink that's built into the counter. They said that they've tried calling everybody they do business with but they couldn't even find anything close. They said we need to call AHS but I'm going to try and find one myself and if there's none, we'd have to get a whole new cabinet or counter with the sink.
Otherwise, having AHS on my property is convenient. I’ve told people about how they work, how good and professional their contractors are and how easy it is to call in or go to their website to make the service request and the people I have told have actually used them. I’ve had houses I’ve sold which had AHS and the people who've bought them have turned around and got a contract with them too.

I typically submit the claims with American Home Shield online and it's quick, efficient and the navigation is easy. My interactions with them was sometimes frustrating like when we had an air conditioning issue. The rep whom I talked with said that the others had to come ahead of us because the temperatures in the city at the time didn't justify an emergency visit. It's a policy issue and it was explained in a very polite and courteous terms. But with the rest of the time, it has been really quite good.
We had guests coming and the bathroom faucet upstairs wasn't producing any water so I called American Home Shield. There was another item that I had asked the contractor, when we were on the phone, to add on that and I was willing to pay for separately from the American Home Shield ticket. The contractor told me what it would cost and I told him that it's okay since I needed it done. The tech who came was extremely efficient. He found out that a little area in the faucet was clogged so he cleaned it and he just asked for 20 bucks for the additional request. I had another guy who ended up working on the air conditioner which another contractor had told me that the unit is just about to go out so I needed to be real cautious with it. That didn't turn out to be true at all because the tech sent by American Home Shield came in, saw the problem and fixed it. He was also very polite and cordial at the house. AHS would order the appliances when they had to replace them. I had to wait an hour to get them on the line and then I'd get tired of that and I'd call the contractor. I could get a hold of him a lot quicker. But it was not a pleasant experience in the beginning because it took a long time for them to send somebody out. I was given the number of one company but they never showed up so I had to call back. And then, American Home Shield sent another company out. That company came when they were supposed to and at the time that they say they were coming. It was football season and so when the contractor came we talked a second then he went right to work. It was a good experience.
The first time I used American Home Shield, it was for the air conditioner, the contractor analyzed that the unit needs Freon. And when he put it in, all of a sudden, it was not a $100 deductible. It was $150. And he was telling me something about the cost of the Freon. The contractors I had were very professional and I could see that they want to hurry up, get the job done and then leave. It's just for me, sometimes as a homeowner, I might want to talk a minute about nothing. But both times, the job was done. And American Home Shield came when they said they were supposed to come. And then the man came out and checked it over and he told me the refrigerator needs a heater. He put it in and it worked perfectly. He knew exactly what happened. I submitted the claim for my plumbing issue over the phone. I would rather speak to a person when it comes to these types of issues because it’s hard to put everything in writing and what exactly the problem is. But I hope that they can try and fix the wait time. Sometimes, it’s an hour to get to a customer service agent. The last time when the first person came out, it took a while and then it takes sometimes two to five days before they show up. I didn’t have a sink to work in for five days the first time then I had to wait another five days. I understand that this wasn’t their fault because it was the holiday too, but I’m paying my insurance including the fee when they come out on top of it for someone to come out and do the services as soon as possible
There was a person that came out the first time, and they didn’t do the job adequately so the leak came back. I have called American Home Shield and told them that this was the issue that I needed to have them come out. The technician came out, replaced the parts of my sink and fixed the problem. They did a good job because they fixed it better than what it was. I was grateful for that because the first time, the person didn’t know what he was doing. Then I kept getting a bill for $75 for the fee for somebody to come out in an email. I called the first time and they said they will contact them and it was taken care of. But then the second month came by and the same issue occurred, that I was getting an email saying I owe the money.
I called up the customer service lady and she could not figure out how to help me ‘cause she just said, “Please ignore it.” I said, “I don’t like receiving something where I have to repeatedly show that I’m owing a bill because I not only got an email but I also got an invoice in the mail.” She took a while for her to refer me to one of the customer service agents beyond her who knew what the codes were because she was trying to make it seem like it was my fault. She was like, “You’re the one that is calling when we keep telling you to ignore it.” And I said, “How would you feel if you keep getting bills? And how would you feel if you get an email as well plus the paper invoice? How would you handle it?”
She finally transferred me to an upper-level customer service agent and she said to call her if I had any more issues with American Home Shield. She figured out the codes and everything of what happened why I received the email. It was because the US Plumbing had not rectified their records and was sending out an invoice request so it was showing that I was past due. I was upset, not because of getting an invoice but showing that I was not doing my due diligence which I had done.
The other thing I was asking for was an email confirmation of whatever we talked about so that way, in future if the bill was problematic, I could say I talked to this person on this date. Unfortunately, they won’t even send an email. They said that they can’t send emails so I had to call back the second time with the same issue. Everything all over again and it was very time-consuming. Other than that, AHS is not bad and they do follow through but it takes time, and they need to fix some of these issues.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for our washing machine and I submitted the claim through a representative. I had a good experience with the rep but the washing machine is doing the same thing again. The only problem I have with American Home Shield is that they keep on telling me that I owe the service fee, which I've already spoken to them about four times. They've also spoken to the people that came out and they’ve said that I paid but American Home Shield continues to tell me that I still need to pay it. I've also asked American Home Shield for one of the contractors not to come to my house again. However, when I don’t call them and talk to them specifically, even though they have it on my account, they would still send out that same contractor to my house. I then call back and tell them not to send those contractors to my house.
When I'm not there, my mother's the only one that's there and she doesn’t know who I've asked not to come to my house. I've been looking at other companies to see if I could find a better one out there. I'm not that impressed although I used to be impressed with American Home Shield. The girl that was in charge of their parts department who is no longer there was very helpful but they told me they cannot get a replacement part and the flexible hose although it was a common brand. So, the only option was to replace the whole faucet, and she spoke with American Home Shield and they said that was not covered. It doesn't seem right to me if a part can't be obtained and it's no longer available. And I thought my contract paid for a replacement.
But American Home Shield sent somebody out in a very timely manner and he was very congenial and polite. The issue with that company was one of the employees told me when I called her was that part will have to come from up north and they had all the storms so they didn't have people going in to work to take care of it and they can't drive on the road. She never completed it and she's gone now. It would have been better if American Home Shield told those people that they will replace the faucet since it cannot be repaired. I like using American Home Shield and I would recommend them, but there are also some drawbacks. I had one claim for my garage door and one for my refrigerator. I submitted them both at the same time online and they both went very well. The guy who did the garage door was awesome! He came out very promptly and made the repairs that we requested. My garage door has two springs and one of the springs broke while the other one was about to break. So, I could either pay for it out of my pocket or tell him to leave and wait for it to break and call American Home Shield back.
The experience with the contractor was great and American Home Shield held up their end of the bargain. But what I would like to see is that they trust their contractors. If the contractors come out and see an immediate issue that's going to be another call within a month or two, they should go ahead and cover that also. It then saves me another $75 trip charge. That time, I had to pay them $125 out of my pocket to get it fixed and the garage door works great now.
I’ve had so many claims with American Home Shield and if it's a non-emergency, they're great to have. But about a year ago, my oven caught on fire and that claim went horribly wrong. They replaced the oven based on features, not size, and it was disappointing having to go back and forth with them on that. I had to spend time and pay someone to come and modify my wood. American Home Shield should give the customer a little more leniency. They could have gone down a couple of features and order an oven microwave combo that would fit on my wall. In the end, they didn’t save me some money by replacing it.
For a claim with my air conditioning unit, I wanted Alastair, the company that put in my air conditioning, to work on it. I didn’t want some fly-by-night or some mom and pop company working on my air conditioning unit when the company that put it in is still in business and they do good work. But American Home Shield doesn’t work with everyone in the area and they don’t have any contract with Alastair. I’d like to see American Home Shield try to encompass more vendors in the area.

Their website is very user-friendly. The only thing was because I had a previous claim on a different heater, when I put in the heater again, it showed as a return call. I had to type in something to get it changed. It needed a clarification since not everybody has two units. It would be an extra click. Other than that, it went very fine.

He looked at the problem and knew right away what it was. That took him at the most 10 minutes and that was including inspecting the bowl and making sure everything else was okay.
We thought the leak was coming from the bottom of the bowl where the wax ring was but it was actually on the toilet's reservoir. He solved the problem quickly and now the toilet is working excellently. Once it was fixed, it was done. We didn't have to even worry about it. I've had friends who would buy a house and I've told them to get AHS because they're going to save them a lot of headache in the long run for things that they don't have time to do or are out of their depth or experience. After a couple of months, I tried to get a new contractor but when I tried to cancel the previous contractor, the contractor called back and AHS said he was waiting for the parts. By that time, I called the vendor myself and they sent me the parts for free. So the contractor never really fixed the problem. He came out and looked at things and that cost me $75. However, it took five service calls before my washing machine was replaced so I didn’t have access to a washing machine for a bit of time, which was not the best. But, other than that, I've had a decent experience with AHS. They've been responsive. I paid for the washing machine myself and they were supposed to give me a reimbursement but I haven't submitted the reimbursement information yet. The company that I called, where I purchased the machine from, came out and took away the old machine and installed the new one.

When we had problems with our heater and our thermostat, my wife submitted a claim to American Home Shield through their online service. She finds their website easy to use and submitting online is what she usually does. Our experience with the contractors sent out by AHS have been very good. I’ve never had a problem with a single contractor. They’ve been extremely kind and friendly, as well as knowledgeable about what they’re doing. This time, the contractor came and fixed the heater and thermostat for us. He just did his thing and told me when he was done.

I would not be without the warranty on my property. I've already told people to get American Home Shield if they don’t have it. I called AHS when I filed a claim for a replacement of the glass on the door of the microwave. The technician was friendly and professional. He cracked a louver along the top edge of the oven to take out the old piece of glass. He cracked off both of the screw mounts, so he couldn’t hold it back on with a screw. He wasn’t able to fix it then and he ordered a part. When he came back with the frame on the door, he realized that the top was broken and he said that people usually just tape it to keep it from falling down. I told him, “No” so he ordered another part. It took him two weeks to get the part in from the time he broke the piece. He was out twice and was able to fix it. And the microwave was working fine since the repair.

We had a leak from the water line that goes to the refrigerator and on top of that, there was an ice maker problem. The moment we found out about those two problems, we called American Home Shield. Whenever we filed claims with AHS, we did it online and that worked great for us. It was a very quick and easy process. The contractors that came out were great and they did a good job. They got there quickly and they were polite. They did what they needed to do and they fixed everything in half an hour. Having an appliance insurance is very important. I tell people to get home appliance insurance because companies don't build appliances to last anymore. AHS has done a great job and I would recommend them.

I've had American Home Shield for about five years and have used it three or four times. I make the call and they get me in touch with the local vendor in the area. Then they have a certain amount of time to contact me and set up an appointment, in which case each time they've done rather well. As far as the ice maker was concerned, I ended up getting a new one. The tech explained to me what was wrong with the item. My refrigerator was about 25 years old so he told me it was a pretty easy fix but the part itself was obsolete. It didn't cost me anything out of pocket other than my deductible. I thought it was more than fair.
When I had some plumbing done downstairs, I had a pipe that ended up leaking because it wasn't vented properly. The plumber that AHS dispatched did a great job. He fixed the problem really quick and explained to me what he did. I have plumbers in the family and they complimented the plumber's work. So I have nothing but high praise for the plumber dispatched.
I'm on the fence on the air conditioner. I have an air conditioner and a furnace which is older than the house. When the air conditioner starts acting up, I'm totally certain it's about time for a new one because the compressor is getting ready to give. But every time it acts up, AHS fixes the problem but it's kind of a band aid for it. I'm fairly confident that it's going to kick the bucket here this year. I have recommended AHS in the past and got a friend right now that uses them as well. She ended up getting a furnace out of the deal about two years ago. They did a really good job. I will recommend AHS.

One of the faucets in the kitchen sink was leaking down into the cabinet area. I went online and put in a service request with American Home Shield. They asked what kind of appliance and what the issue was. I explained that it was a pipe leak. AHS emailed me and said that they contacted a plumber and they will be contacting me within 24 hours. Someone called me that morning and told me that they would be out.
The contractor was fast and the problem was fixed in less than two days. He was really nice and he explained everything and said he checked a few different things. He figured out what it was and where it was coming from. That's when he found out that the water was leaking from the hot water handle. The process went smooth but he had to order a part. He called me the very next day after he left and scheduled an appointment. I had to put in a few service requests with American Home Shield and my appliances were fixed so I was very happy every time. They’re the best thing I ever did and I would tell others to sign up with them.

Some of the reps at American Home Shield were very nice. There was one rep whom I talked to, and she was clueless about what she was doing, and so she put me on hold as she asked someone. I asked if I could speak to her supervisor because at that time I was trying to see if there was any compensation for having a stay-away from home or anything we could receive in return. When she transferred me to her supervisor, that lady was very rude. She was very blunt with her answers and threw them at me. I tried to get more out of her, but she tried to shut me off. I asked to speak to someone about her, and she said that there was no one else. I asked for her employee number and her name, and she couldn’t give out her last name. It was very difficult to get a hold of someone at American Home Shield.
My most recent claim was a heating problem, and there were a lot of issues with following through with them as the waiting time was incredibly long. The first time I called, they supposedly set up the appointment with the people that were going to take care of my equipment and replace the furnace. They said the contractor would give me a callback, and I never got one within five days. At the time, my son was just born, so I was hoping to get the heater fixed before we came back from the hospital. I ended up having to call American Home Shield.
It was a really big issue with the company that came out to replace the furnace. That was the first time for them to work on a propane house, and they tried replacing different parts in the furnace in the very beginning. The heater kept going off, so after about a week, they ended up ordering a different furnace. It was just a headache, and it was a long process. This was last month and during that time, it was very cold, so we ended up having to stay with my in-laws. It took almost two weeks for everything to finally be resolved, and our situation was very inconvenient, but at the end of it all, the contractor did a good job. However, American Home Shield is a really bad company with really bad customer service, and I would not recommend them at all.

The outside compressor unit of our heater was making a great deal of noise. We wondered if there was a problem with the overall system because it was not heating very well in the same breath. I called American Home Shield and indicated that we had a problem with the heating system and they scheduled AC Doctor to come out. They have been here a number of times before, but I’m dealing through AHS this time to make that happen. AC Doctor’s tech, Bill, came over at 9 o’clock the next day. We talked about things, checked out the thermostat on the wall, went outside, and checked on the air handling system outside. Then he took care of it. The thing was triaged, addressed, and completed by midday.

I’ve been American Home Shield’s customer for at least 25 years now and, in general, I’m satisfied with them. Being on a fixed income, I can’t afford a big hit which is why I have them. If I need something replaced or have a costly repair, I don’t get this big hit all at one time. But AHS makes me jump through hoops to get it. Sometimes they don’t hire the most qualified people for the repairs. Somebody will be sent out to look at it but not prepared to fix it. He’s just the estimator and I had to wait for somebody else to come out and actually fix it after they’re given permission to fix it. And when the tech comes out, he may or he may not have the parts. They had to come three times before they will replace something or they have to have a part that’s not replaceable. And sometimes this process takes a long time which really aggravates me.
I have a duplex and I have a couple upstairs that just had a baby in December. When the air-conditioning went out, it took about three weeks to get that fixed. It lasted for about a week before it went out again. At which point I called AHS back and said, “Do not send me back the same people you sent the first time because they were very inadequate.” So they sent me different people the next time and again, it was a process. It took a while but these folks were good. They knew what they were doing and they fixed it. They had to replace a major part which AHS folks don’t like but I’ve been paying.
Now, for my most recent claim in mid-January which was for my dryer, AHS sent someone to look at it and they said it needed a part. After this was reported to AHS, I got a call and was told the part was not available and would be on back order until February 13th, which is almost a month. AHS offered me the amount of money it would cost them to fix it, but it was a $150 short of what it would actually cost me to replace, which I can’t afford. So, February 13th has come and gone and I just got a call earlier today, saying the part that was supposed to be here on the 13th is again back ordered and it’s not going to be available until March 26th. This is not satisfactory. Luckily I can use my tenant’s dryer but I’d have to walk up to do that. We could wait it out but this is ridiculous.
At one point they said there’s no limit on how long it will take them to replace it or to fix it. There should be a limit. For example, fixing the air-conditioning in the summer time shouldn’t go beyond a couple of weeks. The air-conditioning upstairs, it was six or more weeks before they really got it fixed. And then for the dryer, they tell me they can reorder the part up to four times before they can replace the unit. This is only my second call and it’s been about two plus months so they’re only going to reorder it and it could be another two months before they tell me they can’t replace it. It’s a very old dryer. It was new when I bought the duplex. They’re having trouble getting the part and I’m not even sure if it exists anymore.
And having a duplex, I cannot place an order online if something is wrong in the upstairs apartment and my apartment. I can only place a service order for one location so I have to call. And the problem with calling is being on hold for up to an hour. Most of the time it’s between half an hour and 45 minutes, but that’s still outrageous. It keeps saying, “Happy to have you as a customer. We’re doing everything we can to treat you in time,” and it’s still a long time unless I get up in the middle of the night to make the phone call. In some cases, if I have to deal with an office like the replacement people, they’re only open from nine to seven.
I can’t do without warranty but I can certainly change people. I’ve been thinking about that because of my last few experiences but I’m not going to do that at this point. Everything in my house seems to be expiring at one time. I’ve given AHS more hits this year and last year than I have before. I’ve been a paying customer for 25 years and have had very little calls until recently. And they have changed my monthly premium by almost double to reflect that. I’m really taking my weight and I expect to get at least what I was promised in a reasonable manner.
For the most part though, AHS has done really well. They sent someone for my plumbing and the contractor did a really good job and in a timely way. There have been times when I’ve not been happy with the people that they send out the first time but in general, I’ve been very pleased with that. Also, in the past when they have replaced things, that’s almost always been a satisfactory experience. What they replaced it with was comparable to what I had if not a little bit better. The reimbursement process also works nicely. If they’re not going to replace something, and I’m going to replace it, then I get reimbursed for whatever AHS’ limit was for that.
But it was very confusing as to what to do and where to send the information. It was listed first until I got the hang of it. I have to prove that I have replaced whatever it was that they were working on. And it was not easy to find out what that process is. Especially when a customer has to wait on the phone for a while, and then finds out it was the wrong number and then gets transferred. The other number rings but I have to wait on the phone again. It’s not something that happens all the time but, and I’m expecting it's what’s going to happen with this dryer.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I used to brag about American Home Shield and that it was a good company to go with because I got about 10 or 15 of my friends who picked them up because of me. And now, they're looking at other companies. At this point, I feel dissatisfied because you shouldn't have to research something that's already been done. It's been three weeks since I called because we have a problem with the air conditioner unit. The fan motor went out and Southern Comfort was the one who fixed the problem. But the first company who did the installation sought a technician out, but when he came out, he didn't even go upstairs to check the unit. He said he knows the problem and that the unit was low on Freon. I told him that it's freezing up. So he went downstairs and told me he had no Freon. He would have to reschedule.
I told him that I got off my job to meet him and now he's telling me that he doesn't have Freon in his truck. I suggested that he go upstairs and check the unit and see what was really going on. He insisted that the unit was low on Freon and that it will be $45 per pound and he even stressed that I have to put him on a reschedule. By then, I called American Home Shield just to tell them not to send Comfort Air back to my house because they were a waste of time. After that, they sent Jason and Devon from Southern Comfort to check the system. They took their time and found that my system wasn't low on Freon. Instead, I didn't have a damper on my system and my blower motor was bad. They went above and beyond and they even came back later in the afternoon to tell me that the motor was still up on warranty.
They were able to switch the motor because I've just had the unit switched out. However, since I don't have a damper, it will keep the system running longer and it will burn up the fan motor because it was keeping the fan more than what it was supposed to cut off and cut on. They tried to get a damper ordered as well. I tried to tell the lady at American Home Shield that I was going with the recommendation from the technician. But they wanted the original company to come back and check it. They called for Comfort Air, but we knew we were having problems and their technician didn't even go up and check it. And they were the ones that originally changed the air handler. She said she was searching for everything that was going on and she was supposed to get back to us but no one got back with us.
Right now, I'm almost at a point of dropping American Home Shield because I paid my monthly and I just want things done. I don't know when the technician will come in and work on our product. I'm even thinking if they're licensed and certified. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to American Home Shield anymore.
I understand your frustration with the experience you have encountered to have your heat pump repaired. I would be glad to speak with you to reach a resolution.

I had a problem with my heating unit. It was working but it just wouldn’t get hot, and the weather was cold. I filed the claim over the phone and told them my problem then. They told me, they got the information of my debit card and I paid my premium on the phone. Then they said they will have somebody contact me about sending somebody out there to see my unit.
It took the contractors four days to come out. They were very professional and they were good people. I was at a certain point where I couldn’t afford what they were trying to offer me so I just left it alone. American Home Shield got a clause in the contract that I didn’t read at the time but it said I would have to pay a fee that I didn’t really have to get the problem solved. They were talking about 500 some dollars to put some Freon back into the unit. Other than that, AHS is a good company to be covered with and they stay behind their words. AHS will repair your appliances if there is something wrong with them and if they can’t repair fix it, they’ll replace it. I told some of my friends about AHS but they don’t believe it, but I said, “It’s out there.”

It was over the holidays so I understood that one week was the holidays, but it was just too long for them to even get back with me. I would never get an answer from them about when they were going to come, when they were going to fix the dishwasher or when the parts were coming. It dragged on for about a month and a half. They came twice and replaced the parts twice. The technicians said that the dishwasher needed to be replaced. The next thing I know was that it was getting a second look from a different company, Martin's Appliances.
They ordered a part and that’s where we are right now. The part was supposed to be here. This has been going on for so long and it has been frustrating. Lousy Customer Service, when you need assistance you can never talk to anyone you need to talk to. They always say they need to put in a "Call Back Request" and no one ever calls you back. The only time they offer good customer service is when you select the option that you want to sign up for a new Home Warranty. There is no problem then, they answer the call within seconds. But when there is a problem, good luck with getting any service.
I had signed up for a Home Warranty back in November, and this American Home Shield was billing me twice every month and I called several times to get it straightened out and no one ever called me back. I faxed my documentation to them showing the deductions and no one called back, I always had to wait at least 30 to 40 minutes to even talk to someone and when I asked to talk to a Supervisor or Manager their response was, "I can't transfer you, all I can do is put is request an approval for "Call Back Request"." Mind you this the representative has to get approval just to submit a "Call Back Request". It's not an approval to get someone to call you.
Overall, stay away from this company, they will gladly take your money, open up an account for you, but when you have an issue "Buyer BEWARE." The process took 6 days during the holidays. I live out in the middle of nowhere and the first thing AHS can do is come up with more contractors that will work in the rural areas. I've had American Home Shield for probably 15 years now. For the last six I've lived out here and it's difficult to get contractors that we need. I've had two plumbing issues made to American Home Shield, and the first contractor sent here was very good. Recently, I had two stopped up toilets. My mother was using my toilet that flushes to her, and it stopped up. My mother is 100 years old and the hospice had provided her with bladder leak pads. They had initially given a big one, which is what she really needs, and we never had a problem with it. But the next batch they have brought in was smaller and they were falling off my mother’s panties and into the commodes and it was not flushable. The contractor that came in to unstop the two toilets was wonderful. He could see the humor in the situation. He was also able to understand and in fact confirmed what I thought had happened.
The only complaint I had was where the contractors come from. The first guy that was to be sent for my two toilets was from the Triad area. I live in the Triangle area, and the Triad and Triangle are quite a distance apart. American Home Shield was going to send someone from a long way off when somebody close by was available. The contractor was going to make me wait five days before he could get here and I was not happy with that. So I called back and made a change, and AHS called somebody local that was here in hours.

The contractors they have sent out have been very good and professional. They gave us more details, like what happened to the unit and what they can and cannot do at that time. Our washer was not working and it was completely irreparable and it was replaced. We have to buy it since they did not have a front door washer and they paid me for it. Then we got a refrigerator but its water dispenser was not working. The water dispenser and ice dispenser then got replaced too.
My only concern is, if I want to reach out to them, the call wait is long. The other thing is, I wish the repair window is faster because, for example, food gets spoiled if the refrigerator is not working. If it takes 10 days for that, in those 10 days we would be without food. When the refrigerator was not working, we had to borrow our neighbors' cooler and we used it for a week. Then, when the washer was not working, it was really hard for us because we had to go out to wash our clothes and it took more than three weeks for that to get done, which was crazy.

My furnace stopped working in the middle of a Sunday night when it was really cold. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield, and then the next day before lunch, the contractor came. And I also had used them before through AHS. They replaced the thermocouple in my gas furnace, and I paid $75. The furnace has been okay since then. It is just iffy, so every day, I check the thermostat to make sure it’s working. It’s just a matter of time for it to be replaced. I’ve had AHS since 2002. The person who lived in this house before had it, and I just resumed it. I'd tell my friends to get American Home Shield. They can always come up with $75, but they can’t always come up with $1000.

I changed my air conditioner three years ago, and since then, it had problems and it had cost American Home Shield a fortune and it cost me money too. The first problem is that the fan would run all the time even when the unit was turned off. They replaced everything in the control panel. Finally, they sent a guy who found the problem and fixed it. It turned out the wires shortened out. Next thing, the Freon leaked out and they came out and looked at it, and said it needed a new coil. They ordered a coil and I had to pay $900 for Freon. But then, the Freon leaked out again and I had to call them and when they came out, they said it was a leak. They fixed the leak and worked on it.
Then the unit went out again. I called but it was passed 60 days. They said it was the coil so I asked if it was really it because they just replaced it. The guy said they never replaced the coil and he showed me what it looked like. So I had to pay another $900. When he was leaving, I looked at it and noticed a yellow coil and there was an area where the fans were bent. So I asked the guy if he really replaced it and asked to see the old coil. But he took off and I don't know if it was replaced.
About three weeks later it leaked out again. So I called Air Doctor, which replaced the coil the second time. They said I got to call AHS and report it so I did. They sent another guy out. The new guy looked at it and within 15 minutes, he showed me where the leak was. He added that someone tried to put a soldering on it but missed the hole completely and didn’t get it. It turned out, there was nothing wrong. They replaced two coils and it was not the problem. It was that hole. And this guy fixed the hole and went to put the pressure on it overnight to prove that it worked. When he came back, he told me that it didn't leak at all and it worked that good ever since.
While it was fixed, I was out the third $900. The first time I understood that was mine. But they didn’t fix it and then I had to pay another. Then I had to pay another. Another thing was I noticed they charged my credit card another $100 and only three weeks passed since their contractor was here. I called AHS and they said that I didn't call and I just got on the internet and signed up. When I did that, they charged another $100. I was out an extra $900 and an extra $100. Overall, while American Home Shield gave good service, finding the problem with my air conditioner was the problem. And since I like having a home warranty, I'm still staying with them. But they need to do a little better. They need to get their act together so they can save themselves a lot of money and save me some money too.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My furnace was not working so I called American Home Shield and I had good interactions with the rep whom I spoke. However they were supposed to be letting me know that someone had been dispatched within a four-hour period but that didn't happen. I had to call and wait another four hours. Fortunately once they arrived it was a quick fix and it has been fine since the repair. It was a Sunday and it was sort of an emergency call and I didn't have to pay a premium so it was worth it.

We thought there was a leak in the pump of our swimming pool and I submitted a claim online. The AHS site was very user-friendly but it would be beneficial if they had more of a description box where one could add kind of what's going on, like what the issue is. The contractor who came was very courteous and he did a thorough job. He even helped me with our Polaris. He told me what I needed to do to get those sticks because they were getting tingled at. Everything has been going well since his visit. We've used AHS for years and we've been satisfied. I would recommend them.

My furnace didn't work. It has been on and off for about six months. I tried to submit a claim over the phone but it was impossible to get through. American Home Shield's wait time is about over an hour which is not acceptable. It gives me the tendency to want to go with somebody else. I'm even ready to cancel. Even so, the service providers were very good. They were responsible. They came in and troubleshot the problem. They had to order some parts and they came back in and replaced the problem part. After the repair, the furnace has been very well. If I ever need somebody to repair the furnace again, I would like American Home Shield to send the same people. One of the problems with American Home Shield is that you never know who you're going to get. The service providers are from number 10 as being excellent to a number 1 as not usual.
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have experienced to speak with a customer service representative. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

One of our outlets went bad and I submitted a claim online. Navigating through the website, it was good and fast. The tech arrived within 24 hours and he was very professional. He knew what to do and did it well and quickly. Having a home warranty is important since one never knows what’s going to happen. I don’t want to spend more money from my pocket. AHS has been doing an awesome job since I've hired them.

I had a claim for my garage and called American Home Shield. The technician came out not very long at all and he was very professional. Everything has been operating very well since the repair. I’m single and I can’t keep up with the stuff going on here if something breaks. Having AHS warranty on a property is very good and because of me, I had two people that signed up.

One of our dampers was shutting off, which was closing the whole system off, which in turn was freezing our system out. It had been freezing and my heat wasn’t working. In the summer time when the A/C is not working, I can deal with it. When it's cold out, one to two days without heat could be an issue. I called the AHS number and set up the claim through them. Their response is good. They asked me what was wrong, what's going on and what unit it is, and we worked from there. They also give me 24 hours and then someone contacts me and it goes from there. I thought they would do what they are supposed to do.
They came out and fixed the problem then it happened again and then they replaced the damper and then, I think it happened another time but it was just low on Freon or something. The first time we weren’t sure. We thought it was just tripping it and this turned out to be bad so we replaced it the second time. And the contractor was good. They communicated well the first two times. The third time, I was not able to be there. Someone else was there so I didn’t talk to them. But it was great since the most recent repair. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. I always ask everybody who’s their warranty provider and if they have any and I tell them to get AHS, I've had a good experience with them so far.
