I had American Home Shield at two different properties for years and they were wonderful. But I came here to this house and I've had nothing but horrible service. I sent in a claim when the microwave was not working. There was no power at all to the unit. American Home Shield sent somebody out. They did one thing and it worked for a while and then it went out again in about 60 days. American Home Shield wouldn't cover it again because it was past the 30 days. But they sent somebody out and he took it all apart and said he had to order parts. I had to wait a couple of months before they got the parts in and they finally fixed it.
The second contractor was wonderful. The first contractor just found one thing wrong, fixed it and left. That aggravates me because I had another situation with an air conditioner that I called American Home Shield about. They sent somebody out. He put Freon in, charged me $600, and then left. The next day, the air conditioner was out. It took me another week to get somebody back in. From my two experiences in this house, American Home Shield sent out the weakest person they could, who did the quick fix and hoped that that was enough. If not, then they send somebody out more professional to do the actual work. Everything's functioning fine now. But I'm really debating whether I wanna keep American Home Shield. I had them for years. But I'm really aggravated that they sent out two crap people on two different items.

American Home Shield is okay. The only problem I've had is about a replacement part on a pool. They claimed that one of the people they sent out to service it said it was a manufacturer's defect. I talked to American Home Shield and they said, "Well, we don't repair manufacturer's defect." I told them, "I'm a car guy. Where's the bulletin? Where's your written backup that this is a manufacturer's defect and not just an opinion of the technician? You have no proof, but you wanted to deny the claim on an opinion." I had to have another technician come out and take care of the problem. Another thing is that American Home Shield's price has gone up every year.

American Home Shield has been good. But the last time that people came out was horrible. I told American Home Shield that I didn't want them to come out anymore. They told me that they wouldn't get paid if the basement was not flooded. So, they came and didn't do anything. They said, "You gotta take a picture." So, I took a picture of how it was flooded. They said, "Well, you gotta show the picture where it's flooded." They told me I gotta go down there and show the picture when it's flooded. They wanted me to leave the water there, so when they come, it'll be there. I'm not leaving the water in my basement. I left the other stuff down there and I took the picture and then I cleaned it up. Then they said, "No. You gotta leave the water. We gotta see the water." I argued with them. They argued with me and then they ended up leaving.
The customer service said they had to wait until they got the results. But the contractor told them that it was done and they made the repairs. They came here twice and didn't do anything. The second time they said they did it and they told me to take the picture. American Home Shield wouldn't give me my money back for that. I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and that was the worst experience I had.

I’ve been a customer for about a year and a half and I took advantage of the air conditioning upgrade service from American Home Shield. I also had a kitchen sink repair and recently, a bath faucet repair and I was very happy with both. They contacted me promptly and came out quickly. But I had a less positive experience with the HVAC contractor. I was charged an extra $400 for something that wasn't in the original estimate. The price is reasonable but sometimes, it’s unclear exactly what's covered with AHS.
The work quality was good but the way the program is set up, American Home Shield selects a single vendor so that’s a disadvantage. You can't get estimates from more than one qualified contractor at a time to compare. If they have a program like an HVAC upgrade, to be able to choose bids or plans from more than one vendor is limited. You don't have a choice of saying you prefer this vendor over that one. It’d always be good to be able to have a comparison of at least two different companies because there are probably five good HVAC companies that I came across in the Las Vegas area.
I only had a verbal statement of work, which some independent AC firms provided, but the vendor contracted that I went with did not do that, which resulted in me having a misunderstanding of what was included and then me being charged an extra $400 for that service. So, I wouldn't go with that vendor again. Even though the quality of the work was fine, I didn't appreciate the interaction with A1 Quality Care.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

American Home Shield is doing well so far. It paid off in a number of different ways as far as maintaining the appliances that I have. So I'm very good with it. Some of their contractors are very good and they are very sharing of information. Some are very suspicious of giving you any sort of information, which is crazy. Out of seven of them, I only had that experience with one contractor that was very secretive. Other than that, they were all very sharing of what were the issues and other options that I could use to make the experience even better. I had American Home Shield fix my AC unit and when it broke down again in one particular setting, the company that they got fixed the motor and got it running again. So it's brand spanking new, even though it's 90 years old.

American Home Shield sent out Progressive Appliance and they looked at the refrigerator and the washer. They said nothing was wrong with the washer but that was not correct, so I called American Home Shield back. I told them that the water was not draining out of this machine and it smelled. So they reopened the claim and they sent Steve Appliances out here. Their rep took it apart in the bottom and took out the paperwork which was still in the washing machine. He ran tests and came up with what we were experiencing.
The board was out and the wires were messed up, so the issue was intermittent. It was happening, then it wouldn't happen. It was happening, and it wouldn't happen. He then sent in his report and AHS decided to replace the washer. Then, they sent somebody out from A1 Delivery that delivered a new washing machine. But they didn't balance it when they brought it and they had to come back out to adjust it. Now, I got to call them again because it's making a weird noise when it's spinning that I don't think a new washer should be doing.
I normally go online and pull up my account when I need to file a claim. I also try to talk to somebody because I want to explain, but it's very hard to get somebody to talk to that you can understand. I went through so much with American Home Shield and we've been with them for a long time. I don't use them often, but when I do have to use them, I expect for them to come through. And I want to be able to understand what the person is saying and I want to be treated right. But I wasn't feeling that.
Last year, the techs had to come out for my AC and put the Freon. I then decided to change my policy to the upper plan so that that was covered. This year, they came out on the exact same month and had to do the same thing again. I had to pay $540 like I did last year and I was pissed. AHS found the note saying to change it to the upper plan but they said that there was nothing they could do because it was from last year. Then they tried to say that they would not charge me for the service ticket or put an extra no charge on the service ticket. But they were not handling the problem. You also can never talk to a supervisor ever and that speaks volumes. Your complaint will go to an escalation team and they don't know what you're talking about. There are never any notes taken. I got that one girl that tried to help, but she was very limited.
I told them that they were talking about somebody who's been with them since 2012 and my money is automatically taken from my account. They don't have to go looking for me to pay them and I am the kind of customer they don't want to lose. It was ridiculous how they were handling my complaint. But at the time, I had to keep the service because they were still working on the washer and the refrigerator. It also took a month for them to work on the refrigerator. Nobody called and offered to rent one for me during that one month that I had no refrigerator. It was just really sad.
All in all, I would tell my friends to look elsewhere and go to another company that has people in the United States that can talk to you and that you can understand. Because AHS is sourcing their stuff out and you're talking to people that you could hear birds and chickens in the back. If you can do the job and I can understand you, that's different. But when I can't understand and I sometimes got to hang up and call back, that's not good. I don't have time for that.

The first company that American Home Shield sent out said they were gonna order the part but two weeks later, I still hadn’t heard from them. The particular contractor had the phone numbers listed but no one ever answered the phone day or night. So, I called AHS back two weeks later, after they said that the parts could be in two days. The company had closed the order out like they had done the work but nothing had been done. So, AHS sent another person out to do the same thing. It was the same company but different technicians came out. These particular guys said that we needed a new microwave. From there, they were going to get with American Home Shield and then, we would be able to start the process of getting a new microwave.
A week went by but I hadn't heard anything. So, I called AHS again but they hadn't heard from the company. Once again, they put in a false work order or said it was complete when they hadn't even called back AHS. A third technician was sent out from the same company. Another guy came out and he said what the first guy said. They need to order the part and will get with me and it should take three days. But another week and a half went by. This started in August and it’s mid-September now. It's the people that AHS is contracting with. But we're getting horrible customer service with both of them. So, my husband called American Home Shield and told them not to send this particular company out again because they've been out three times. And it's been five weeks, and we still haven't gotten anything done. So, AHS sent another company out and they went in to order the parts. It's just been a complete mess.
We've had American Home Shield for over 10 years and the quality has decreased. After getting this microwave done, we're considering dropping them because we could have gone out at this point and bought a microwave and had it installed. Before they even hear the case, they want their $100, yet it's too much back and forth to get the job done. And I have an issue with that. So, versus paying that monthly fee, I'd rather just be putting that in a savings account and handling whatever we need to handle.
AHS is getting a bad rep because, at some point, you are held accountable by your contractors. So, if your contractors aren't doing a good job, then that reflects on you. We've had a couple of bad experiences with the people that they're sending out and even with the first people that fixed the microwave, they broke the grill in the process of fixing. I don't like that they send us text messages and when I was trying to find the contact number of the company, I had to Google and look it up, and call and call. But when you're looking at the reviews, they're a one-star and two-star company. So, that says a lot as well. And if we're paying top dollar for a service, we don't want the bottom of the barrel.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

My stove wasn't heating up. I submitted a claim online with AHS and their website was easy to use. They sent the name of the company and their number. The tech came in. It didn't take him long to figure the problem and repair it. He said it was the igniter. He changed it and tested it. And it worked fine. It was a good experience. AHS is good. However, one improvement could be all those little fine print things should be made clearer like how they won't replace anything unless you have been with them for 90 days. Those things should be more prominent.

I had an issue with the two large burners on my stove. One had overheated and had fire coming out of it. As for the other one, you could put it on whatever number you wanted it on and it would escalate. I was in a position where I had to stay in the kitchen by the stove in order to see what I had cooking on those large burners. I called American Home Shield and told them on their recorded line that I was having problems with my stove. For the right rear, that was the second time I called on it. Someone was supposed to replace a part.
This time, a repairman came in and was very cordial. I showed him the kitchen and he asked what kind of problem I was having. I explained to him what I had going on. He turned the burners on and checked the serial number on the stove. I explained to him that the right rear had gotten extremely hot and it overheated to what I considered the maximum heat there. He looked at it, got the part numbers, told me the parts would end up having to be ordered, that they would be sent directly to me, and that I should have them prior to the end of the month. When the package came, I called American Home Shield to let them know that I had the parts. The guy called the same day that I had gotten the parts available for him to put on.
The repairman who came for the AC unit somewhat politely dismissed me when I was telling him what kind of problem I was having. The fan was making a noise but it didn’t make it when he came. It was the heat of the summer and to stand around my house waiting for it to make a noise, he may not have made it that day at all for him. He replaced what saw that was wrong. The fan was turning and it wasn't making a noise, and there was another part that was bad. But the noise came back and I was without air again. Otherwise, I've not had a problem with the technicians. They always explain to me what it is that they're doing.
My appliances are now getting older as my husband and I are getting older. We need them fixed without having to go and buy, if we can afford not to have to do that. Having American Home Shield, at least we know we'll have somebody that's coming. If we have a problem with the service, at least we got a company that supposedly has a good reputation that will back us up. I gotta have them to protect the things that are costly here as far as my appliances. It's worth it for the peace of mind knowing you can get the service that you need to have done.
I would recommend American Home Shield. I have a sister who lives here in Memphis and she's had American Home Shield for 15 years. She had it in her first house as well as in her second one. I have a brother that lives in Florida. He has it in his home and he's had it for years as well. They always got good service out of it. I have a daughter who lives in Chicago and she has American Home Shield from her experiences from when she was still growing up here at the house.

Jones Electronic came out for the dishwasher and the ice maker in the refrigerator. The ice maker wouldn't make ice and they kept having to come out. It had something to do with the fan. They got the wrong part a couple of times and had to come out three times to get it to go. They had a time with it. They replaced the fan and the ice maker itself. The dishwasher was off cycle and where you put the soap in wasn’t locked down. The techs said it was broken so they had to replace it. The company sent them the wrong one but they put that one in and then, they wound up having to put another in. Everything is working now.
When I submit claims, I just call American Home Shield and tell them what's going on. They send someone out but they charge my account $100 before they do. Then, they tell me who’s gonna come and that company comes. Some of the contractors are not skilled. It appears that they are on a timeline so, they cannot give attention to diagnosing what needs to be done like they should. A lot of people like to change parts and not know what is going on. They need to be able to have time to do a diagnostic check and make sure they understand what is going on and then do the repairs. The last contractor I had did that. After he replaced the ice maker, he said it would start up in 24 hours. But it took about 48 hours. It was about three days before it started making ice, but it started.
The tech was still on the schedule to come back. It must have been about five weeks after they came out before it was completed. They were going to order a new ice maker to put in there and then, it started making ice. So, they came out and checked it, and made sure that everything was like it was supposed to be. But it was because he had to spend a lot of time making sure and seeing what we talked about. The refrigerator was made overseas and he would have to make sure he got the model number. He got the manufacturer's number and the year it was made and then sent in for the part, because they can't just get a part and put it on there. That took him a while and once he got that and put it in, it was making ice as quickly as he thought it would. But it needed to recycle itself completely before that new unit could start. But it did start and I'm getting ice now.
American Home Shield is getting contractors for me but I don't know if they research the people that they get to do their work and if they give them time to do it like it needs to be done. They are giving service for repairs of their clients. I’m paying them $100 to send someone out to fix a product for me and $89 a month. But the service that I'm getting doesn't justify the amount of money that I pay. It is not the people's fault that they send out to do my work. It's the people who contract to get the work done and the timeframe in which they have to do it.
People should make sure that they understand the kind of service that they're seeking. I’m with American Home Shield because there are some services that I can't get anywhere else. And they provide me with a complete service line of people they could get for my particular needs. And because of that, I'd be willing to pay $89. But I'm to a point right now, where if I can get someone else to come in and repair my appliances, I’m asking myself if I wanna continue to have the appliances on American Home Shield's list.
My concern is about people being honest and sincere in what they do. We need to be given the service that we pay for. If I'm gonna pay them, I don't need to watch over them. They should do what needs to be done and do it because they want to do a good job and their company is being promoted. The company that AHS sends out should have workers who are able to do the work the way it needs to be done and not be fearful that if they spend more time on the job than they should, then the company is gonna be upset because they won't make enough money. These kinds of things are being done just to say the people are able to come out and give you a buzz and then take off. And I don't need that.

The dryer stopped working and the tech diagnosed it as a motor problem. He replaced that, but it still didn't work, so he came back out and it was repeating the same problem. It wasn’t drying and wasn't spinning. I'm currently still waiting. I started the claim a couple of months ago and it's still not fixed. The problem was he couldn't order parts directly as a vendor, so he had to order them through American Home Shield, which added another week or two to get the parts. We've had several claims over the last few years, and sometimes it takes a little longer. They should fix things quickly and allow the vendors to order what they need and fix things. It would be great not to have a delay where they can't order parts and get things fixed. But for the most part, our experience has been okay.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

Have used AHS for a number of years and even currently have AHS for 2 rental homes now. But I just had the worse experience in my life with a vendor and AHS's policies. The quality of AHS vendor was awful and AHS had poor policies that do not make sense. Ordered a repair for clogged shower drain for a rental home with 4 tenants who could not shower. AHS provided a vendor on about Monday after a day or two. But when no call or email came from the vendor after 1 day, I called the vendor multiple times a day for additional 4 days but only got a voicemail to leave messages and still no reply even after leaving multiple messages.
When I finally got a hold of the vendor on Friday they could only schedule for Monday the following week. Then on Monday, the vendor did not show up in the scheduled 2 hour time slot. I think he showed up late after my tenants left the house frustrated after the 2 hour time slot. All this time I was asking AHS to change the vendor to someone that would respond faster and on time. I even requested to talk to a supervisor and they said once a vendor picks up a work order AHS can not change the vendor.
Only after repeated call to the vendor was I able to get them to come out the next day. AHS was useless in this case. This is despite my explanation that my tenants were livid and the vendor doesn't answer phone calls, delays for a long time and even missed a scheduled appointment. This policy is the most awful policy, when a vendor defaults or is incompetent, AHS has the responsibility to change the vendor. The tenants are still upset with the slow repair due to vendor and AHS policies.

My air conditioning wasn't cooling and the fan went bad on the furnace motor. I called AHS and paid 100 bucks and then they sent somebody out. They came the next day, put a furnace motor in, and they had to put two little objects in the air conditioner, too. The guy who came out and did it was fine. The only thing I would be concerned about if I didn't know what was going on is, he was driving a personal vehicle and he didn't have a company uniform.
This last claim was good. But the previous times were terrible. I had some troubles a couple of years ago with my furnace. They sent someone else and told me I needed the furnace replaced. I called another company and the company said that it was older and it could have been replaced. American Home Shield said they would give me $2200 to replace my furnace. I tried to get that money. But they would not give me the money. And they still have that money. My furnace also went out when the weather was in the 90s and 100s every day. It took 10 days before somebody got out there and fixed my furnace. I finally called somebody and paid for it myself and told American Home Shield to go to hell. I have since dropped American Home Shield after this last thing I had.

We've had the same issue with the refrigerator since February where when we tried to get ice or switch from ice to water, the refrigerator will start beeping. Then it stops working for a minute or so. So, we wouldn't be able to get water or ice. Active Appliances came out so many times. They replaced a couple of boards and the problem has persisted. It's still not fixed yet. The tech replaced a few different panels like control boards in the refrigerator, but it didn't fix the issue.
American Home Shield has not done a whole lot. We've had three different companies now come out and look at the fridge, and they haven't been able to fix it. One company didn't even try. They told American Home Shield they couldn't. So, American Home Shield then sent Active Appliances back again. Active Appliances came out 10 times. It was so ridiculous. Finally, I complained a lot. They were gonna send Active Appliances out again, but Active Appliances now refuses to come back out because they can't fix the issue. So, now they reassigned it to a different company. I'm very dissatisfied.

He got here and was very courteous. He looked at the problem. Saw what he needed to do, went back to his truck and got his tools. He came back in, took care of the problem, and he was out of here in 15 minutes. Job well done. Very happy with it. The claim process has worked fine for me. For the stove claim, the contractor came out in a reasonable time. The technician who fixed the issue with the dryer was excellent but the first vendor American Home Shield assigned could only come out to assess in 14 days. I explained to the representative at American Home Shield when I called back and told them that was not acceptable. They were able to get me another vendor, which I’m very appreciative of them. But it took a while for the authorization and the part to be sent out. They said it was shipped, but apparently, it was not. It was the same thing with the air conditioner. That was unacceptable. It was over 37 days and it was hot.
American Home Shield should be kind enough to get a portable air conditioner for the customer. When they contract with the vendor, the vendor should have everything like the crate that they needed. It should be more clear to the consumer. I don't understand why I had to pay for the crate when American Home Shield contracts with these people. I had to pay over $1,000 for the crate. I voiced my opinion to them. I talked to somebody at American Home Shield then they switched me over to somebody else. It was a long dialogue.

Our last claim with them was an electrical issue. The contractor fixed the issue and it was the same contractor that had been out here a couple months ago with a similar electrical issue. But I don't have American Home Shield anymore because it's gotten a little cost prohibitive and pretty much everything's fixed. But we probably would go back with them again if the need arises.

I had a problem because the first company that came to repair sent a person who misdiagnosed the problem and didn't fix it and came out for a second visit and really did nothing. It was a dryer making a very unpleasant squeaking noise every time it ran. He said it was a mechanical issue of the metal rubbing on metal. I had a previous problem with it where there were slides that are on the rotating drum that wear out. I asked him, “Is the problem the slides?” It seemed like a very similar, if not, identical problem. He said, “The slides are fine.” So, the problem wasn't resolved.
And then American Home Shield said, “Well, you can get a second opinion.” The first company was Aurora Appliances. So, the second opinion was from GE Appliances. They came out and they said, “Yeah. The slides are shot and missing. And there's a bearing that needs to be replaced.” They fixed it, so it was ultimately resolved but it was a frustrating experience because the first company was terrible. It was an obvious problem for anybody who knew what they were doing. So, the guy was either incompetent or they just didn't want to acknowledge there was any real problem. More likely, he just didn't know what he was doing. I would never use Aurora Appliances again.
The only thing was I didn't know that I was entitled to get a second opinion, and that if a second opinion differed from the first and that was correct, and that I wouldn't be charged for a second visit. I didn't know any of this process until I had to deal with all this. So, it would have been nice to know in advance that this was how things would work if the first shot at this was not satisfactory. It’s like, “They didn't fix it. I paid $100 for nothing. And what now? What do I do?” Calling AHS and speaking to them, I discovered what could be done and what ultimately was done.
Another problem with AHS is they're very expensive. And this past year, I don't think I got notification that the renewal had come up. Every year, I call them and say, “Gee, it's too expensive,” and they give me a bit of a discount. This year, that didn't happen. So, I'm rethinking. I've had some satisfactory results from them, but given the cost of it, I'm wondering if I should continue or not.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

My air has been messed up since June 10th and I've had the same company come out yesterday for the fifth time. They no-showed last week and canceled on me the week before. One person told me it was because their truck was broken, then I was immediately called by someone else who told me that the tech was sick, so they couldn't get their lies straight. Yesterday, my husband sat in my 80-degree house from 10:00 to 2:00. At 1:30, he called the company and they had no record of our appointment that I had made the day prior. Thankfully, they were able to squeeze us in, because my air went from quasi working the last few weeks to just straight up not working on Saturday with my three-week-old in the house and my five-ear-old.
I dealt with most of these issues while I was nine months pregnant. In dealing with American Home Shield on one of my three-hour calls with them, I had to sit in my house, waiting for the tech while I was on the phone with them, and I almost went into pre-term labor. The only reason I still have the service is because I want them to fix my air. But I'm super over it. I pay for a service and I'm getting jack from it right now, besides people lying to me or trying to get me to pay them out-of-pocket on the side to do things.
Also, one of the techs was a super transphobic man who was making very inappropriate comments to my five-year-old. Aside from that, the first time I called, when the people didn't show up or I couldn't get an appointment sooner, the customer service gentleman told me I was getting expedited service. He told me to call back in 45 minutes if I didn't hear from anyone. So I did that. I got someone else and she had no idea what I was talking about and escalated me to some other guy. That guy then told me that a supervisor was going to call me back, and I'm still waiting for that call. That was in June.
Then, I got a third guy who told me that the first guy told me I was getting expedited service to get me off the phone even though the first guy kept me on the phone for over an hour, trying to help me. I told him I wanted to file a complaint and he disappeared for a while, put me on hold, came back, and said he shouldn't have said that to me. But if I didn't file a complaint or escalate it, he'd get me expedited service. That still didn't happen since I had to wait six days for an appointment. Every single phone call and interaction I've had with the vendors and American Home Shield has been a nightmare. I've been put out of my house and now I have a newborn and we're in South Carolina where it’s 100 degrees out.
I've had AHS fixed my fridge once, and they've also come out for my air once before. Those were experiences were decent enough. But this recent one with the air conditioner has been abysmal. I used to recommend American Home Shield to people but I will never do that again. On Saturday, I was told that a conflict team was going to call me within 24 hours and I'm also still waiting for any follow-up on that. Then, on one of the times that a conflict resolution member called me, they just said they were sorry about my complaint. When I asked what are we going to do to remedy it, they said they were just calling to let me know that they were sorry. That was the resolution and I was still out of my house. And my regular house was at 86 degrees at that point because that was in July.

The dryer quit working. It wouldn't turn on at all. I did a claim to American Home Shield through the website. My biggest problem with the website is it doesn't give you a place to provide additional information that you might wanna convey to make it easier when the company comes out so they know what to expect. There's no place for that information. All you can put in is what the appliance is and some very basic information like, "It doesn't turn on or it doesn't dry," but it doesn't give you a place to say, "This is what happened." So, you have to talk to the company when they call you up so that you can explain the problem. So, that's the only thing I don't like about the website. In my particular case, I have a gas dryer. I had no idea what happened. I didn't know if it was the electrical outlet. I didn't know what was going on. All I knew was it was in the middle of drawing and it just quit.
The contractor who came out was very good. They came out quickly and ran through some basics, quickly determined there was something I never would have thought of, which was the switch that when you close the dryer door has to engage, and that switch wasn't working right. So, once he determined that was the problem, then we had to wait because he had to order the part. He couldn't finish the job until the part came in because it wasn't a part that he had on his truck or was in the shop. So, it was over a week before he could come back out.
I did like the fact that I got a notice saying that the part had been ordered and that the part was delivered. So, from there, I had an idea of how long then and once they got the part, they came out in the next few days after that. I was out of my dryer for over a week. Fortunately, I'm a clothes horse, so I didn't have any problem with having clothes but it just meant that I couldn't do any laundry. It wasn't just something that I can air dry.
AHS raised their prices this year, both on what my monthly charge is and what my service call charge is. I'm on a fixed income. They seemed to have gotten away from starting at the top of the alphabet, which I don't like. It also doesn't have a place on their website that you can request a specific company that you might have used before and really liked. I don't have a choice of the vendor that they assign to me. There are certain times that I know that there are certain vendors that they have sent out before that I really like and would like to use again, but I don't have that option when I'm putting in my work order. I would like to be able to have that option to say, "This is the vendor I would like if this vendor is available."
Normally, when I do a request, I go in, say what the problem is, and then they come back and tell me who my company is gonna be, and they send it to me, and they also send it to the company that they have assigned. So, by the time I know what that company is, I don't have a choice. So, I would like to be able, on their website, to pick a vendor if there's a specific vendor that I would like.
AHS is a good warranty company. The biggest problem I have is I have an old house. It was built in 1970s, and a lot of the work that was originally done by the previous owner was very bad. He did a lot of DIY stuff and he did it all wrong. So, the first company that I had was the warranty company that was holding the warranty when I bought the house. It wasn't American Home Shield. I had a lot of things go wrong. I had a lot of electrical problems. I had a lot of other issues. I had HVAC problems. I had all sorts of problems. So, I had a lot of claims. What I didn't realize at the time was that they were gonna cancel me. They didn't renew my contract because I had too many claims. They canceled me and they wouldn't renew me no matter what I said. It's like, "Well, you already fixed all this stuff, so you know it's not gonna be more repair. So, why won't you renew me?" They were like, "Nope." So, I am very leery putting in for claims.
With American Home Shield, I have a ceiling fan that's not working now, but since I just had the dryer done, and not too long before that, I had plumbing work done, I'm sitting here with one of my ceiling fans that doesn't work because I'm afraid if I place another claim this quickly after my previous claim that they might not renew me at the end of my contract this year. So, it's a little disconcerting. I'd like to get my ceiling fan repaired or replaced, but in my mind, I have to prioritize because I never know when something's gonna go wrong.
Nothing in this house when I bought it was new. I didn't realize that at the time. Every appliance was a used appliance. I also still have a problem with my refrigerator. So, there are two things that I could put claims in for, but I'm afraid to do that. I'll probably wait until winter when it starts to get cold before I'll put in a claim to have my ceiling fan repaired or replaced. In my mind now, there is this fear that they won't renew me. I'm not saying that American Home Shield would do that, but when you already had one company cancel you, you're leery of putting in claims.
We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

My experience using American Home Shield has been horrible. I will not recommend them for any services. I'm not pleased with them overall. Right now, I have an issue with the refrigerator. They connected me with a contractor. The second visit that the contractor came out, I told them that I wasn't pleased with the services of the contractor and requested another company. They told me that I couldn't get another company because they needed to go out and complete their job.
That contractor came out two additional times and was not able to fix my appliance and the communication that he gave me was something totally different than American Home Shield. That contractor put in a request to get another company to come out and take a second look at it. The new company had to come out twice in order to fix it. I was without a refrigerator for three weeks. There was no type of, "Hey, let me see what I can do for you. Can we compensate you for anything?" The contractor wasn't replying to their emails and wasn't returning their phone calls. They weren't returning my phone calls. Every time I would call in, they would say, "Oh, well, we have to follow back up and contact them again and wait for their response." They are waiting on a response, but I'm without a main appliance that I need in my house that's essential.
Every time I will escalate it, it will be the same process over and over. By the fourth time the contractor had come out, there should have been some resolution of, "Okay, they're not responding, they're not answering. Let me make sure you're taken care of as a customer." I had to take off work and shift things around because their hours were a little bit different. The technicians did work on weekends, but no one was in the office to return any phone calls or respond. So it was me contacting American Home Shield versus them keeping in contact with me and saying, "Hey, this is what's going on. This is how we're working through this."
When it was time for me to renew my contract, which was the end of August, I told them that I didn't wanna renew my contract. At that point, they were trying to keep a customer. They can offer me $100 off of service or an incentive to stay committed with them, but they can't help me in the middle of a process where I don't have a appliance. Yesterday, the second technician came out, and he was able to get my refrigerator back running. We have a 30-day window just to make sure that everything works properly, but I did cancel my contract with AHS. I've made numerous complaints against that other contractor that the customer service is bad and their follow up is bad, but they continue to do work with them. They need to hold them accountable and not the customer. Their customer service reps did answer, but there was no resolution, and then sometimes there was a language barrier.
They cover my issue, but they're not working in a timely fashion. Also, the prices have increased, but there are no extra incentives or anything extra. So whenever I'm paying monthly for the plan, I have to pay additionally to put in a service request. So each time I have to have someone come out, it's $100. At first, I was paying 40-something, then it went up to 50-something, then it went up to 65, but this next go-around to renew the contract, it was $100, plus there is still $100 for them to come back out. I don't understand why I'm paying $100 monthly to have them as a service, and then when I need to utilize it, I still have to pay another $100.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I'm extremely disappointed with American Home Shield. On 8/26, I filed a claim. Today is the 18th but I still don't have a washing machine. They sent a contractor who had time a week later but when they came out, they said they couldn't fix it. American Home Shield sent somebody else out a week later. They put this piece in but it didn't work. Today, I called and they told me the next available thing they have is on Saturday between 10:00 and 2:00. I don't think American Home Shield is worth it. It's getting more expensive by the minute. I also would rather have somebody here in America and not out of the country to talk to. They can't do nothing. They're just there and pick up the phone.

#1 Garage Doors came out and said they needed to fix the spring because one spring was broken on the door. But in order to fix one spring, they needed to fix the other spring and adjust the door. I said, "If only one spring is broken and that's what's covered, then just fix what's covered." They said, "No. We can't do that. We have to fix the other spring and adjust the door. That's 400 something dollars out of your pocket." I don't have that kind of money because I'm retired and I live on a fixed income. They refused to do the job and American Home Shield said I got to pay 400 and something dollars ‘cause they only cover one spring.
I called the people who installed the door. They came out, replaced both springs and balanced the door for $331 out of pocket. On this one incident, I'm very dissatisfied. American Home Shield finally gave me back my $100, but they only wanted to give me back $92. I had talked to seven people. They're also supposed to give me some money back on the $331 but I have yet to see that. Three times, I've emailed them the invoice and the worksheets that the guy gave me. They keep saying, "We need proof of payment before we can pay you." I said, "I don't know what more proof of payment you need. I've sent it to you. Here's the number. Call them up and they'll tell you I paid them already." Up to this point, American Home Shield was great and I was happy with them. They replaced my dishwasher and fixed my washer a couple of times. It was leaking on the floor this last time. The first time, its timer was messed up. They also fixed my dryer.

I love the last guy that came out to fix my dishwasher. American Home Shield had assigned it to somebody else but I asked to get the same place. I always get through them so I could get the same guy. I don't wanna deal with any other company because once you find somebody that you have a good rapport with, it works out well.
However, when my ice maker kept breaking, American Home Shield kept charging me $100 every time I would have somebody come out. It was a known chronic problem but they kept charging me instead of telling when it first happened that I needed to deal with Samsung, that it's a known problem with them. After the fourth time of me paying them $100 to have somebody come out, they told me that they couldn't fix the problem, that it had to do with Samsung and I needed to contact them. It was their way of not replacing my refrigerator. After dealing with Samsung, I ended up spending thousands of dollars and getting a new refrigerator.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. AHS apologizes for not meeting your expectations. If your concerns regarding your claim is unresolved, please send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

Overall, American Home Shield has been good. The times I've used it, there's been quick resolution on things for the most part. But the last experience I had was bad and it carried on for almost two months. There was a lot of not checking with Sears that things had shipped and whenever I reached out to American Home Shield, there was nothing they could do. Whenever I reached out to Sears, they said things were supposed to be shipped. We looked at it and parts that they were shipping weren't useful for the issue that I was having with the dishwasher. It took way too long to fix it and no one from American Home Shield was able to see that thing and be able to help escalate. I got frustrated with that and it made me question when there are other bigger things. It was just a dishwasher but if it was something else that's more important to the household, I don't know.
The claims process is straightforward but I am questioning my ability to trust in American Home Shield moving forward. If their contractors are going to order stuff, it would be awesome if American Home Shield would have a way to check if those parts that people are ordering are, a) necessary, or b) delayed or out-of-stock so that they can go ahead and let the contractor know. It was on me to reach out to Sears but I didn't know that because I had an appointment and Sears didn't even come for the appointment. There was no notification that they weren't gonna come. The closer that American Home Shield is able to work with contractors when there are orders, the better.

On my AC claim, a repairman came to work on it. He had to clean it but he didn't. He recommended that when American Home Shield has their spring cleaning, that we opt for it. If American Home Shield promises something, it has to be. Prior to me calling for the AC, I wanted to cancel my contract but I didn't cancel it because I traveled. When my washer got broken, American Home Shield did a buyout. But they didn't have the kind of washer that I had, so I opted out for the money. I told them that if I opt out for the money and I go and buy my washer, to have somebody fix it. They said yes. But when I called them to have somebody come fix it, they were tossing me about. We've had American Home Shield for a long time and we pay for the policy religiously. But when it's time for them to come out and do something, there are rules and regulations.

When we bought the house, our real estate broker gave us a year of home warranty as a gift. It was eight years ago. I lived in Georgia before we moved here and we had Total Protection and they were fabulous. But they wanted an awful lot of money and it was too much for us. So, my husband shopped around and found American Home Shield. We've had it since we got it about six years ago. At one point in Georgia, our water heater broke and it was over a holiday weekend. So they couldn't get anybody there and they told us to buy a water heater and hire a plumber to put it in, and they paid for the whole thing.
The first contractor fixed the issue and put the new disposal in and it was okay for a while. But all of a sudden, it started leaking a few months later where the repair guy had connected the pipes. His & Hers Plumbing came to fix the issue but it was more than two months and we had to pay another $100. But the experience has been okay. AHS has done the right thing but sometimes, they couldn't get anybody here for a couple of days, which I didn't care for because the other company we had in Georgia used to come right away. One time, the contractor didn't come right away and the other times, they came the next day. But when I called this last time for the leak under the sink, they said four days. I said I couldn't stay four days without a kitchen sink. So AHS searched around till they found this guy who came the next day.

The AC stopped cooling and the tech came out approximately two weeks ago. He has been fine, however, I did not agree with his assessment of the problem. I said that because of the age of the unit, it needed to be replaced and that's what I told them the first time. But they thought they could repair it and that's what they told Home Shield. So, of course, Home Shield said that they would rather repair it and that was what they attempted to do. The guy came out and he repaired it and it cost me close to $1,400 out of pocket. We had air for two days and then the air started going bad again until the point that we didn't have air conditioning at all.
I called the company, not knowing that I had to call Home Shield, and they told me I had to call Home Shield who would call them and give them some kind of work order. We have gone without air now for two weeks. They scheduled somebody to come out and I understand it was a week for them to schedule somebody to come out but it doesn't take away the inconvenience of not having air. Other than that, we've had Home Shield for close to nine years and any time we've called them, they've responded right away. And I would recommend them to anybody because it's a good company and it's a good policy to have.

American Home Shield's service is not that good. Since July 27th, my air conditioner went down. It still is not fixed, and I'm paying the top dollar for the best insurance that money can buy. Unfortunately, the contractor that American Home Shield has is not really that responsible or they're not paying them enough, so they're not responding. I even called them. They're not even returning my call back. They offered me $200 to get the window air condition, which I'm not interested in because I'm 70 years old and I have a heart condition. My daughter bought the air conditioner for me. So, I didn't need their generosity to give me $200. I just asked them to fix my air conditioner.
I had four contractors for the same problem. The last one was kind of gentleman. The one before the last, he did not check and he said, "Oh, we changed it." I said, "Well, check what's the problem.” So, most likely he's old and he cannot find the parts, and they’re gonna change it. And then after that, I didn't hear anything from him. I kept calling him. American Home Shield is waiting to get the estimate from them, and they never got the estimate. After writing so many emails, somebody answered finally. They sent this company who came on September 7th. They ordered the part, but I haven't got it yet. So, the claim is not completed.
As far as the customer service, it's very difficult to get someone. They don't have online services, too. You just gotta call them. I have this 800 number that usually is in Filipino , and the people are very compassionate on the phone but nothing gets done. I had to make a call many times. I even sent the email. I am very upset. I bought the insurance for when I need it. I said, "If it was a water leak, then my house would be destroyed because you're having a chief contractor that is not happy with you guys to come out to do the work." It's really bad. The price I pay to American Home Shield is too much because I'm not getting anything back.

I've been happy with American Home Shield. But they don't have the vendors that are willing to work with them in my area. Toledo is a sizable town. It's almost a half a million people. But AHS doesn't have anyone that close. I've had a couple of recent issues. One, plumbing, that was remedied. Now I have a pending work order for a couple of appliance repairs. And the issue in both instances is did not have vendors local to make the repairs. The plumbing issue was booked a week out rather than being remedied within 48 business hours, which it says in the contract. The vendors travel only one day a week to Toledo, which is where I'm at. The second issue is AHS couldn't find vendors that could address the dishwasher. The only vendor that could address a dryer, just like the plumber, only travels to Toledo one day a week. I guess they wait until they have enough.

I have a problem with our refrigerator/freezer where there is ice building up and the drain systems are not working. They clog up and then it develops ice on the bottom of the refrigerator. If I don't chip it out and it lasts, it starts to leak into the freezer which is below. We had Aurora Appliance Repair out, and the guy took the entire back panel off and saw that there's a portion that's cracked where the ice built up. Ice freezes and it expands, and it cracked part of it. We thought the guy had it fixed, but it's not. That was on Labor Day. We didn't even make it two weeks and it's already building ice back up. We just put a call in yesterday and this will be the 4th time on this particular one.
The few times we've used American Home Shield, it's been very simple. My wife does the claims online, and every time we've had something, the response has been quick. Keeping that up is fantastic, but there is something that could be improved most. My wife definitely says, sometimes, getting online and getting stuff is a little cumbersome, but once the claim gets submitted, then it's usually smooth.
We've had a couple of things that we've had to do, some electrical stuff and this appliance one. The warranty is if American Home Shield can't fix it, they replace it, and they are gonna have to edge into that point. That's why we have the insurance. All in all, American Home Shield is a quality company. I highly recommend them, and so far, I have. Things are going to break down, and if someone's got a coverage, this is going to pay for itself.

I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. Usually, I do service requests online. It's easy, and we have had very good luck with the contractors assigned. The first time A Go Home Appliance Repair came out, they came for the stove because the burners weren't lighting. We also have a dryer that would run sometimes for 30 seconds or a minute and then shut off. So, then I'd have to go take the filter out, put it back in, say a mantra over it, and try it again. Sometimes it would work, but other times it would shut off again, then I'd have to do it all over again.
One guy from A Go said he fixed our dryer and left, then it was bad again. So, they came out again with a different repairman. He said, "Oh, the guy didn't clean the heat sensor thing." He cleaned that, then he said, "Okay. Well, it doesn't appear it's working on a normal cycle. You'll have to use a timed cycle." So, I thought, "Okay. We can deal with that." In doing it with the timed cycle, our dryer again did the same thing, but then two times ago it worked. It's on again, off again, and it's a difficult situation. The problem is when A Go comes out to check it, it might work while they're checking it, but then the next time we try it, it won't. They're supposed to be coming out again, but they have not reached out to us. We've been very busy and I haven't gotten back to them to set up another appointment.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

When I submit claims, I either call and get live person or go online to the online portal, which is easy to navigate through. For me paying in every month though, I would think that the warranty would cover more, but I get it. It's like insurance. It's not gonna cover 100% of everything. Recently, I had an AC issue where it needed Freon, and they scheduled a contractor to come out. I heard from Cabot Mechanical, they scheduled a date and time, and that was it. They were great. They were very informative, and after they added the Freon, they left.
The claim before the AC unit was for a hot water tank that needed to be replaced and it was a bit of an issue. There was lack of communication with the repair company, The Rock Plumbing. They would never call me back or answer my texts, but eventually, they ended up getting the issue fixed. It took longer than it should have, but in the end, I'm happy.

A few months ago, I had a claim filed on a water heater, and it was not a good experience. I thought that my water heater was leaking, so I filed a claim stating that, but I later found out that it wasn't the water heater. It was the furnace or the air conditioning unit. The person came out from One Plumbing, Dan, and as we were looking, I asked him, “Is there any way it could be this?” The air conditioner unit and the furnace are right next to the water heater, and he said, “Oh, no. You can just tell by the pattern of the water. It's this.” I didn't like that answer. After the gentleman left, I got a chair and sat in front of the leak. After a little while, I noticed that the furnace was leaking. There were drops of water coming from that. I cleaned everything up. Once all the water was cleaned up and it started to leak again, I could see that the water was clearly coming from the heater.
Water condenses in the unit and there's a little drain pipe that brings the water down, and that had plugged off. Once the other gentleman cleared the plug for the air conditioner/furnace, it was all fixed.
I kept calling American Home Shield over and over again because I told them, “I need to talk to somebody other than just one of the representatives on the phone. I need this elevated.” It took a while before I could elevate to get somebody other than the person who answers the phone. After a week or so, I got a phone call from someone who said they were some sort of supervisor. I explained to them what happened and that the guy from One Plumbing was fraudulent, because then she told me that the report that this person turned in was that my water heater was totally rusted and it was leaking from the top. I said, “None of that occurred.” I told her, “He's taking money from you guys. And he's also asking me for another $1,000.” She said, “It says here that you agreed to pay him.” I said, “I never agreed to pay that guy $1,000 out of my own pocket.”
I told the person from American Home Shield, “I paid out of pocket for another company to come and do the air conditioner.” I also told her that the issue was from one of the small pipes that was clogged. The water was backing up and it was overflowing. Once the plug was cleared, I haven't had that problem again. She then said, “We'll see if we can reimburse that 125.” I didn't say anything about that because I didn't wanna deal with it.
The person also said, “We were going to do this payment so you have so much money that you can spend on a water heater if you wanted to replace it.” I said, “I don't need to replace it.” She said, “We'll just leave the money there in case you decide. And then if you do decide, then you need to send us receipts for buying another water heater.” I said, “I'm not gonna buy another water heater. I don't need one.” The whole thing is fixed now.
I've been paying American Home Shield now over $50 a month for a couple of years, and I had to pay out of pocket for the first thing to be fixed. Recently, I put in a second claim, which was for some electric stuff. I went on the computer and made a payment, but unfortunately, American Home Shield declined it. I'm seriously thinking about, “Gosh, do I really wanna continue with this company?” That's expensive for nothing.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

When we've had to use American Home Shield, they've been amazing. Whoever they get is really quick. They come out right away, and even though I'm hoping for them to say, "Yeah, this thing needs to be replaced," the people that come out are able to fix everything and make them continue to work. Our most recent claim was for our dishwasher, and by the time the guy came out, he said that it was working okay. So we had to pay for a call for someone to come out and do nothing.
We've had American Home Shield for five years and they haven't done anything to me other than raise their price. I'm planning on canceling it because we've been paying it. When we started out, it was only $50 a month, and now, we're up to $90 a month. It's almost doubled in that timeframe, and it really bugs me. We might use the home warranty once a year. It's not worth it for us anymore to keep it.

American Home Shield was a referral from a friend. I've been a customer for years, and I'd recommend them. I've never had any issues with any of the technicians. I've had a few instances where I needed to use the warranty, but this last situation that we had with Fix-It Now was the first time where the technicians misdiagnosed and my initial issue wasn't resolved the first time. We had an issue where there was water found on the floor. Fix-It Now came out three times because I thought it was the air conditioning. Come to find out it was not that, it was the water heater, so now, we have someone coming out to fix our water heater.

I've had some problems with that microwave since I moved into this house and it never got fixed. My recent claim has been going on for almost three months. The first guy came out and ordered part. Then they sent the second guy who bought the part, came back, and said it still wasn't working. They had to order some other parts. After that, the guy said it wasn't the microwave. It was the electric and the issue was with the breaker. They sent an electrician out and the electrician said it wasn't the breaker, it was the microwave. He also bought another breaker and it tripped his breaker. They sent another guy out to bring another part. But after he came, it was still not working.
American Home Shield sent another electrician out. This electrician said the same thing. It's not the breaker, it's the microwave. So that's where we are right now. American Home Shield called me and said that they were gonna send another tech out. So I'm just still waiting on that. But one technician should be able to check exactly what's wrong. Instead, they sent four techs out and everybody's ordering parts. So I can't say what they're doing because a lot of times a month I have my granddaughter there because I couldn't take off work all those times and they were usually coming before I get off work. But they do record for me what they're saying and doing.

When you call American Home Shield to get help, it just goes to the outsourced phone lines over there in the Philippines. When you need them to think outside the box and beyond their script, they say they can't do that and they don't have the authority to do that. When you have an extraordinary situation, there's nothing you can do about it. I don't see anywhere on the website where you can deal with an emergency situation and still have it covered by American Home Shield.
The customer support is standard. You call and you wait, and they answer you. I've worked in the Philippines before and they all sound Filipino. One time I said, "How's Manila?" And she said, "Oh, it's great." They're always super sweet and helpful. But they are restricted to their little manual and script there. I had two air conditioning problems, and I'm still dealing with one of them.
When I called American Home Shield, I said, "Hey, I'm having an emergency situation here. What do I do to get help with this?" The rep said, "Well, just a minute, please. Let me look at your case." She told me that the contractor was gonna be out to my house on the 8th. I said, "Well, I know that. I'm telling you, this is the issue I'm having above and beyond our regularly scheduled thing." There was nothing she could do about it. She just stated to me what the original schedule was. So I asked her, "Well, who do I talk to about any of this?" She said, "Well, we're the service support group." It's very irritating to the point where as soon as this current one is done, I'm gonna drop American Home Shield.
American Home Shield should not outsource the call lines. They're very sweet over there, but there's a lot lost in translation. So there's been many times when I've tried to describe the situation and they said, "Yes, we're gonna help you as soon as we can." I told them, "Well, I know you're going to, but when is that gonna be?" They didn't understand my current situation. They didn't understand that I was not calling about the original complaint. I was calling to update them and say, "Hey, I need extra help with this." So they need to bring their call centers back to America. They need to give the consumer the ability to talk to someone beyond their little answering service.
There have been a couple of things where the people came out and fixed it right away. But when our oven went out, it was a four-month process to get the new oven. When the contractor came out, they said, "Well, it's an older oven and the part that's messed up on it, we're not even sure they manufacture anymore. So we're gonna look for it and it may take a couple of weeks." I understood that. They came back and said, "Okay, we found the part." They fixed it but two weeks later, it went out again. They said, "Okay. Well, now, we're gonna go search for another part." That ended up taking four weeks to find. At this point, they said, "Okay, well, we haven't found it on any of our regular websites." They said they needed to search for used or remanufactured parts throughout the world and find it wherever they want. At this point, we were already going three months.
We couldn't get beyond the little local call group. At that time, they had an open Facebook page where anyone could post on it. So we got on there and posted our situation. We got a call from someone here in the States within 30 minutes who said, "We are so sorry. We're just gonna replace your oven outright." They finally bought us a new oven, which we appreciate. American Home Shield's process is not very streamlined in certain cases. So we ended up about four months without an oven and that happened four years ago.
I've got another issue going on with our air conditioner that happened this summer, where it's not just American Home Shield. It's the people that they assigned to help us. They weren't doing a very good job. I tried to get ahold of American Home Shield to say, "Hey, you're kind of our advocate here. Will you please help us deal with these people?" But the only people I got in touch with were the outsourced call center and they said, "Well, yeah. They're on the schedule so they'll be out to see you."
Our AC was worked on by Avid Air before and they fixed it right away. It was a pretty small fix. Now, we're working with a different group for the unit and they're not doing very well with their customer service. We couldn't get in touch with American Home Shield to go to bat for us and say, "Hey, you need to get out there and fix this stuff." So after two and a half months, we've only had half our AC working. It's been real hot this summer here in Southern California. At one point, we had both ACs out so we had no air conditioner, and it was triple digits. We couldn't get ahold of American Home Shield for any extra help to try and get this stuff taken care of.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

For the most part, my experience with American Home Shield has been good and bad. For the last couple of months, it's been absolutely terrible. I have an air conditioner that was installed last summer because the previous one was old and broken. So American Home Shield sent in this lousy, terrible contractor. He put in the cheapest air conditioning system he could find and it's never worked right. He didn't even install it right. Air was leaking all over. He didn't even put a filter in there. That lasted all last summer.
This summer, when it was 100 degrees over here in Moses Lake, I turned the AC on but it never got to where it needed to be. If I tell the thermostat it needs to be at 70, then it should be at 70. But it never did that. When it was 100 outside, it was almost 90 degrees inside. It was miserable. I was calling American Home Shield saying, “The guy didn't fix it.” They said, “Oh, you need to contact him.” But why is that my responsibility in the first place? When I tried to call him, there was no answer. He was gone. Nobody could get ahold of him, not even American Home Shield. So after a couple of months of arguing with American Home Shield every day, and five days a week giving them a call, they finally agreed to let a different contractor come in and replace it. They were gonna pay for most of it, which was 4,700.
The outside contractor that I chose went on vacation for two weeks. He came back last week and ordered the parts. He was waiting for the parts to come in and in the meantime, American Home Shield emailed me. They said, “Well, we haven't heard from you or the contractor. We're just gonna close this out.” I said, “He didn't do it. I told you guys he's on vacation. He told you guys he was going on vacation.” American Home Shield does nothing but lie and make things absolutely miserable. I have been so stressed out. Summer is almost over and my air conditioner is still not fixed.
I'm going out of my mind with American Home Shield. I had to keep the contract going. It renewed in August because if I didn't, then I wouldn't get a new air conditioner. I’m really disappointed in them because when I first got American Home Shield years ago, they were good. They replaced the washer and dryer. I have a well outside. So there's a tank and a well pump out there. They replaced that. They also did a couple of drain cleans in the septic. For the most part, they've been good, except for the air conditioner.
To submit a claim online is easy. It’s just getting a contractor assigned and a contractor to actually stick around. I've been through four air conditioning contractors and three of them refused to do any business with American Home Shield after dealing with what they've had to deal with here. It's really difficult to get answers from them. Their call center is in India and I can't understand what anybody says. I asked to speak to a manager and they always tell me there's never a manager available every time, which I know that that's not true. They say, “Well, we'll get a manager to call you back.” But the manager never calls you back. So I'm disappointed. With the amount of money I've been giving them since 2017, they need to do better.

The refrigerator went out, and it took over a week for a technician to come out to look. It took almost three weeks for it to get fixed. The first time the technician came out, he was very rude. The second time he came out to replace the part, he was a lot better. My experience with the techs sent out by American Home Shield depends on what the issue is. American Home Shield needs to work on finding more technicians that can service our area. I've had to wait almost a week for somebody to come out in most instances. It was longer than a day or two.

The air conditioning blower would not turn off. A contractor came and they troubleshot it down to a bad module that had failed in the on position. I told American Home Shield it had been running nonstop for a month. They don't cover my power bill and the wear and tear on a unit that's not meant to run that long that was why they said that they were gonna replace the motor and the modules. They ordered that module and when the contractor came out, they swapped that module, and it immediately shorted back out. They did more troubleshooting and found out it was the thermostat. The thermostat isn't covered by American Home Shield because it's not a bad thermostat. It was just sending the wrong signals based on the way that they set up the module.
I went ahead and replaced the thermostat. Then they said the module had gone bad. They didn't check that before they installed it. They came back out with a motor and module assembly as one unit. They did that because the fan blower had been running on for so long. There was no way to turn it off without turning the breaker and my entire air conditioning off. However, the motor assembly was not the right size. They came back out yesterday and attempted to install the right size but it did not work. They installed a different motor and module assembly. They said it was a larger one. They ran it through some different tests and said it shouldn't be an issue. The unit's been running fine ever since. It took a month but everything turns on and off like it should be.
I had American Home Shield since 2013. I had let it lapse at one point then I came back to it. I have had issues though. There have been a couple times where I've almost cancelled. But whenever I can get to a stateside person, I've had no issues. I've kept the policy for large costly repairs. This year, I had a pressure release valve that they replaced. That probably would have been 1,000 bucks. But I had a different air conditioning issue a couple of years ago that they had to keep coming out to be able to troubleshoot. That went out for six weeks until I figured out the components that needed to be replaced.
It's hit or miss depending on what I'm claiming it for. There are a lot of things I still do out of pocket that I don't claim because I know the hassle and the response time will be. I had an electrical issue that I claimed that American Home Shield and the providers were never able to solve. When I went out of network and paid somebody, it took them an hour and a half to solve. From American Home Shield and the suppliers in the San Antonio area for the electricians that they dispatched, I was thoroughly unimpressed.

I feel overwhelmed when I can't take care of things because I don't wanna have to go anywhere. I wanna stay at home. The tech was able to repair my dishwasher but he was not able to repair my refrigerator so AHS replaced it. He was also able to repair a heating element in my dryer. But he was not able to repair my washing machine so AHS also replaced it.
American Home Shield didn't have anything that I wanted to replace for the refrigerator. All the ones that they had were smaller. So, they allowed me to go and get one on my own. They sent me an e-card for a particular amount. I found one within their guideline. They have done what they said they would do. I have been asking friends to look into getting the plan with them. I belong to a large church and I'm one of the mothers of the church. All of us have our own homes and living alone. I tell them, “Get American Home Shield. American Home Shield is a bad company. I have been a customer for the last five years and I have been paying around 55 per month to cover my major appliances like the AC. In the past, I opened a service request for water clogging on the external pipeline. AHS sent a technician who checked and said that I needed to reroute so many plumbing that it will cost $675. I was not willing to do that and I hired another contractor. They found out that I had a clogged water line. They cut the pipe and cleaned it, and that fixed the issue. I paid $200 from my pocket to the contractor.
This time, I had an issue and I opened another service request. AHS sent somebody and they gave me a paper saying the evaporator line needed to be replaced. After they contacted AHS, they sent me other details but that didn't include the evaporator coil, which would cost a little over $3,500. I would have to pay from my pocket and AHS would pay only 120 for the Freon. They should cover the failed evaporator coil, but they would not be paying for that. So, I hired another contractor. They purchased the evaporator coil and fixed the issue and I paid 1,950 from my pocket. I called American Home Shield several times and they offered me $278 for this repair work. But that is nothing. I do not agree with that.
After a couple of days, after my system was fixed by the contractor, using my money, I called American Home Shield and canceled my warranty service with them. So, I am gathering all the information to send the initial letter about all that happened in these past five years. From there, I will go to the next step if they do not resolve my issue by paying back whatever I paid to them. I have had an unpleasant experience with American Home Shield. They have to cover the failed part but did not cover it. So, all they do is collect the money from the user and cheat them. Whoever is trying to get a warranty should try to look for another company and research that one and look up the feedback on the internet.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

We like the service. When the contractors come out, they usually take care of whatever they need to take care of. We only had a problem with one. It dealt with the air conditioning. I sent back a message to AHS to let them know that we didn't like how they came out and what they did. And they talked to my husband. It was about the air conditioner we got upstairs. When he came in, all he talked about was replacing both of them. When he looked at the system, he left some screws off the part upstairs. My husband found them on the floor. He took a device out of the unit that we were having a problem with and left it on top of the box on the outside, and screws on the ground.
When they gave their results of what they thought it was, I told my husband I didn't trust them because all they did was talking about getting two new units and being that careless of leaving parts out and screws on the ground and look out on the floor upstairs. We spoke to someone else that we had dealt with before we had AHS. They came out and tested everything, and all it needed was refrigerant. We paid for that out of our pocket, and told AHS. They got a thing where we can receive the money to take care of it. We paid for it, but we told them we would send them the money back because it wasn't what that company said it was. It came up to $1,600. But it was just refrigerant. That was in April of this year. I told them we could send them their money back, and they said no, because it might go out again. It's still running.
I told AHS to never send those people back out here again because they didn't do a good job. They were getting money out of both of us where it shouldn't have been, because if they did what they have done, they would have found out it was the refrigerant that was low. It was so confusing with that other company that I was so upset because it didn't make any sense what they were talking about.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

The technician was able to resolve the issue. However, my dealings with American Home Shield were not very productive. They were holding information back. I wanted to know all the information before I made a decision, if we were gonna go with American Home Shield or if we were gonna cash out the part. They said, "We can't tell you that information with the cash out prices unless you give up our credit that we're giving you.” Even finding out what that credit amount was, they were not very forward with that. I didn't even know if I was making good on the deal because they were not helpful by giving me more information.
For this claim, because it was a larger order and more expensive, it was a lot more difficult than when we used American Home Shield for the dishwasher. There were a lot of stuff that they weren't telling me. The whole process in the end was confusing. There was a lot of, "We can't tell you anything. You need to talk to the technician." Then the technician would say, "We can't tell you anything. American Home Shield has it." They were giving me the runaround and I didn't appreciate that.
I understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to contact us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can talk more about your experience.

American Home Shield was competitive in price and more comprehensive than anything else I had seen in the marketplace. But I just terminated my relationship with them. There is a dynamic that goes between them and the vendors that they use to do the work that is required under the contract. One of the things that is typical in the last six months is there seemed to be an effort to diminish responsibilities and increase cost to the consumer.
I had two separate situations. One with a pool equipment and one with my air conditioning unit. I have two air conditioning units combined with furnaces located inside the house with compressors on the outside of the house. They're both the same age. I purchased both systems a number of years ago. One system started to fail and I was told that there was a problem with the compressor and they would replace the compressor, except that it would cost me another $600. In addition, they would provide a unit that did not fit or was not designed to be accommodated by the product. It's the original product. That was where the $600 came in. It was for modifications to make it work, which to me seemed absurd. Especially for something that was not originally trying to provide something that did not work and was not originally designed for the system.
The vendor went ahead and acquired that compressor. When I told the vendor that I would not accept it, he tried to charge me for it. There was all of this nonsense about a restocking fee. My position was, "I never said go ahead with this. You have no authorization." But it turned into a major megillah and it ended up taking me two months to resolve it. It caused me to have to evaluate the two separate systems that I have in the house because they are of the same age. I determined that I needed to do some research and see based on the age what the life expectancy was and what it would cost to replace one or both of them. In the process of doing that, I ended up spending another $23,000 to replace the two systems. None of which was covered by American Home Shield. That gave me the first platform on which I began to think that AHS was not a company that I wanted continue doing business with.
The second situation has to do with the pool. I have the additional coverage for the outside above-ground equipment associated with the pool. I have what are called pop-up cleaners. They are controlled by a valve mechanism that is above ground and sits right next to the pump and the heater. It was determined by the vendor that this mechanism needed to be replaced. And the next phrase was, "But it's not covered." I said, "But it's above ground." He said, "It doesn't matter."
We went round and round on the issue of why it would be excluded. The only explanation in the end that I could determine was it was an arbitrary decision on the part of AHS. Because it logically does not make any sense that it sits like the other pieces of equipment, it sits above ground, and it is easily accessible. That ended up costing me another $400 to do that.
In the last renewal, AHS increased the co-pay for any kind of vendor service. It became more irritating. I determined after that second experience that I would not renew the contract. I knew it was coming up in September. I found another firm and entered into a contract with them so there would be at least a month overlap. I called yesterday thinking that I'd better get this thing canceled. Being 80 years old and having a number of other balls in the air, it did not come back to my mind that there was an automatic renewal provision. I called to say, "I saw a charge on my credit card and what's that for?" "That's for the month of September." I said, "But we expire on the 4th of September." The rep said, "It automatically renewed." I said, "I don't want it." That resulted in a half hour and two different people going round and round trying to save the contract.
I kept telling the individual who I was trying to facilitate the cancellation of the contract, "I wanna cancel." He kept coming back with, "What if I offer? What if, what if, what if, then what if some more." In exasperation, I started screaming at him because he wouldn't shut up and would not give up on his attempt to convince me that I would not cancel the contract. A half hour into that exercise, he transferred me to the cancellation department, and I started the same process all over again. Another 15 minutes until I finally got the contract canceled. So, the combination of increase in price, reduction in coverage, and an unpredictable kind of determination that is allowed for the vendor who obviously has a financial stake in upping the cost, combined to tell me, "This isn't a company I wanna continue doing business with."

I thought my initial issue was my garbage disposal so American Home Shield sent a plumber out. After the plumber's assessment, he realized the garbage disposal was fine and it was the electrical switch that was problematic and thus transferred my claim to Mayday Electric. Once they were handed over my claim, they contacted me immediately and scheduled one of their technicians to come out within 48 hours. That representative came early in the window and resolved the issue in less than 30 minutes. Behind the sink, there's a switch that you use to turn on the garbage disposal and there was a short inside that switch.
Having American Home Shield, I like knowing that I'm capped on the cost a little. If I need a plumber, I know it's only gonna cost me that copay. I'm not subjected to a plumber's $150 an hour rate if I call somebody randomly. However, I have to deal with the people they select and not who I wanna deal with. I had a negative experience with one of their plumbers a few years back. Also, I had been paying $55 a month but now I'm paying near $90. This rising cost is annoying. But everything is going up these days so that's part of it.

I did the request online, and American Home Shield sent somebody out the next day. But the plumber that came out said that my request wasn’t covered under my contract, even though it showed that it was. I didn't have to pay out of pocket because it entailed more than what had to be done for it. The little thing that I thought would get done for it to stop the hydrant outside leaking, if it wasn't winter proof, I don't have that in my contract, they don't service it. So, I didn't pay anything. The plumber just gave me some advice what to do. I appreciated him for that. But AHS needs to change their contract and it needs to be put in there that certain services are not covered. Even though it was in the contract, they would say it was not covered. So, I won't renew with them. But they were able to help me with a part that went out on my air conditioning. The contractors were very knowledgeable on both the claims, so they were good.

The dishwasher stopped sealing and was leaking. It also wouldn't close properly. I went online, clicked through the claims process on the website, and set it in motion. It was easy. I got an email stating what contractor was assigned and that they would be contacting me to set up an appointment, which they did very quickly. Orlando Central Appliance was very professional. They were on time and made sure they had the little booties on their shoes so they weren't tracking anything into the house. They were telling me certain things that were wrong with it, and that there were gonna have to be parts ordered.
I was stressed about it but they took care of it. The first replacement unit was damaged but they got on that and took care of it quickly as well. We've enjoyed the new dishwasher. We've had it for a little bit now, and we haven't had any issues with it. We had another claim for a leaky toilet, and that was fixed quickly as well. But this was even faster and easier than that one was.
We've had American Home Shield for quite a while. Our best friends had it, and they said it was a great service. They had an issue with their microwave and they said it was resolved easily. The convenience of the service is the best. You can either call to put in a claim or do it online if you don't have time to be on the phone at that time. They stay on top of the contractors. This time, it was nice that the contractors that came out were talking about what a great company American Home Shield is. That was encouraging to hear. You pay this amount monthly and you almost never use the services. There were frequent times when we were thinking about cancelling it. Then this popped up and it was a good thing we didn't. For them to say that it's great working with American Home Shield is even more confirmation that we should stay.

American Home Shield is wonderful. We know what's covered and what's not covered, and we are very satisfied. Submitting a claim is very seamless and easy, and it's all automated now. You don't have to speak to someone anymore. Years ago, you would have to call to put in a request. When I did a claim for our faucet in our kitchen a few weeks ago, I immediately went online. We've got a credit card already in the account for the service charge. Once you click on the tab, you immediately get notified about who's going to be contacting you. The very next day, the plumbing company contacted us. But they did not do the job properly so I went back on American Home Shield’s website where they ask you if your job was completed, and you say no and that you need them to come back. You just have to click a button there and the next thing, the company was calling the next day to schedule another follow-up appointment. It went very easily since everything's been automated.
The people that I spoke to were great. I've sometimes had to deal with people at the company, the receptionist at a plumbing company or electrical company where you can tell that they're super busy and they have no time for you. But this company was fabulous. We also had an issue with our oven and we got a full replacement oven at no cost. It was the same with our cooktop stove that we had to replace not too long ago. The only thing is that we're not in love with our dishwasher, but it's because we were being too cheap. We could have paid some money and got a better one.

I've had a couple of homes and they've had the coverage with American Home Shield. If something truly major happened or if it was the AC unit or furnace, it would at least be covered. Instead of paying somebody $150 an hour, I'm paying a flat rate for someone to come out and diagnose what's going on. When there was an issue, like with the refrigerator door, it was replaced. It's been favorable. I haven't had any major issues except for maybe this year when AHS’ price went up a little bit. The technicians, so far, have been good. When I put through another service request because the same issue came up again and we thought it was fixed, I like that the same person came back because it can make it rough if they send somebody new.

My washing machine, my refrigerator, and my microwave broke and this is the first time I ever had this many down at one time. I called American Home Shield and the techs made appointments, came out and assessed the situation of each of the items and each one of them was worked on. But the items still weren't working when they left. So, to this day, I'm still waiting for my appliances to come. They did a recall, which means they're unable to fix it on all of them. Every time the techs came in, they made a bad situation worse. My microwave was working to a certain extent but once they repaired it, it didn't work anymore at all. It was the same thing with the washing machine. The only thing that was wrong with the refrigerator at first was the freezer wasn't freezing. But now, the entire refrigerator is out of whack and my food is going bad.
The contractors don't seem to be qualified. They came out to put my washing machine in last Friday and they didn't put it in simply because there was something in the way of the washing machine that they needed to replace. They are supposed to come again tomorrow to replace the washing machine and I'm waiting to see what happens with that.

The plumbing claim I had with American Home Shield a few months before wasn't a very pleasant thing. Instead of sending the usual contractor that I get in town who I like, AHS sent one from Tucson, which is an hour and a half away. When the rep assigned it, I said why it was not local and she said it was what I had to have. The guy came and he was useless. I had a stuffed-up toilet and by the time he got here, a day later, it had come unstuck. He said that was taken care of and asked about my kitchen faucet. I asked if he wasn’t at least going to snake the toilet because obviously, there's some blockage and it's gonna block up again. He went out to his truck, got the snake and said it was not gonna do much good because he only brought a short snake. He had driven from Tucson to my house to fix a toilet and that was what he brought.
The guy snaked the toilet and then went into the kitchen and worked on the kitchen faucet. He didn't do a thing about it and told me I needed to soak it in some vinegar and left. My toilet plugged up again and I just hired the local person to come in and do it so that I could get it done and paid out of my pocket. I had another problem so I went online and American Home Shield tried to assign me that same guy out of Tucson. I told them not to and they said they would cancel that. I went back online and they assigned that person the second time. I finally got on and persevered until I could talk to a person and told them not to ever send those people to me again. AHS sent my local guy and he fixed my toilet.
I've been a member of AHS for years and they’ve taken care of me. I've always been happy with them until this one last time. This guy is the only person I didn't like or didn't do his job. It cost me $200 because AHS kept wanting to send him here. Another problem came up again with the toilet but it was a different one. There was a problem within the tank. I called AHS and got my local person. He fixed it and it was fine.
I'm old, so I like to be able to talk to a person. I realize why AHS has everything automated but they could make it a little easier to have access. If there is a problem after you go through the whole process and you could punch in a number and speak to a representative, that would make it a lot better. But younger people probably don't feel the same way as I do. There's something offered in the automated thing that if you haven't solved it, you can go all the way through. Sometimes it goes through very easily. But you need to be able to get to a person if you have a problem more easily.

We spotted a leak and the person who came said there was too much work and that we needed to call a mitigation company first. They took care of that and while they were testing the materials, they found asbestos so we had to have that taken out. When it was safe for me to go back in, the leak was still there so I checked to do a call back and it was two days past. So, I had to do a new order. But American Home Shield didn’t agree with the person who was going to do the work. So, they sent somebody else and it was completed successfully. That call started in the middle of June and we're still waiting on the rebuild, and it might not be until November. We have been without one of our bathrooms this whole time.
The last appliance I had a claim on was the dishwasher and the person who came out didn't accept what I said about it. He said he had to look at it. But instead of checking what code was flashing, he cleared all the codes and said mine doesn't keep it in memory. And it's supposed to. So, he had to go back. It would have been a quick fix. Instead, he had to go through and check everything. When I asked him questions, he would start answering, stop in the middle of a sentence, call his boss and start speaking another language. I can understand that but when he came back, he didn't finish answering the question. So, it was frustrating. I had looked up the code, and it would have been an easy fix for me, except I didn't have the right tools. It was for the access panel and I had to call American Home Shield for it.
What causes that code is either a leak, but no leak was found, or excess bubbles. I hadn't realized that one of the boys put dish soap in the cup. So when I put the cup in the dishwasher, when it stopped working, I opened it and there were a lot of bubbles in there. So that's probably what it was. The person said it couldn't be that even though on the manufacturer's website, it says that's one of the things that can cause it.
We usually try for energy-efficient or Energy Star appliances and the ones we've gotten when we requested them were not. Our energy costs have gone up because AHS is replacing Energy Star ones. If the website where we're supposed to pick our replacement appliances from says they're Energy Star, they should be Energy Star. Another thing is, for some reason, the online service tells me my account has expired even when I had just paid it. And I pay it two months in advance of when it's due. Paying two months early makes it three months before it expires. So, I don't do it online, I call. When I do, I have to enter my contract number and/or my address at least three to five times before it would connect me. If AHS could improve its automated system, that would be a great assist. I have told their service people this. So hopefully, it's getting to AHS. Most of our experience has been very good with them.

I did a claim for the AC unit. A repairman came, said it was a condenser and replaced it. He looked at the condensation line and tried to blow it out. It busted and he fixed it. He said it wasn't part of the claim. But it just leaked again and was leaking all the way across the garage. We had to keep the door cracked, had a second claim and called them back. The lady said I had to go through AHS. Then they came out, cleaned out the condensation unit and the little box that pumps that out, and it's been working. However, it would be good to be able to contact somebody at AHS other than clicking on something and waiting for a response. I had a question and wanted to talk to somebody but I could not find a way to do that. I couldn't find a phone number anywhere and that worries me when I can't call and get ahold of somebody. The only way to do it is send an email or whatever message you don't even get a copy of.

They did maintenance on my air conditioner this year and they've been here when I had electrical and plumbing problems. They came and fixed my bathroom sink. The center pipe where everything drains was cracked and leaking. It was also clogged behind that. They put in all new plumbing underneath and unclogged it. When I needed a new cartridge that controls the water in my shower, American Home Shield had someone come out and replace it. But I was a little disappointed because when they did, they were going to use the same screw that was in there with the original cartridge. They had to order the cartridge, and it took 10 days to get here. They had to have somebody come back out. When the second person came, he said the first person didn't realize that it was put in with the wrong type of screw and that they don't do any replacement on parts that were wrong. They said, “You can buy a screw and put it in. It's $1.50 for a pack of six screws.”
Now, I've replaced the screw. There's just one screw that holds the knob that sits over the cartridge. But I don't think that the handle is right for it because I can't control my water in my shower. I just have one knob and had to put it in the middle, and that makes it warm. If you go to the left, it's hot. If you go to the right, it's cold. I can't control whether I have hot water or cold water because if I move it, I don't have the slight movement. It either goes all the way to the left or all the way to right so I'm not even using that shower now. It's very frustrating. They should have replaced the old handle if the two don't match because it's a new part. I've left American Home Shield a message and I'm waiting for a response. It's been five days.
I had an issue with my faucet out front. It was leaking. I was disappointed because I was gonna do that first, I was not gonna do my bathroom shower. The guy came out, looked at my faucet out front and said it just needed to be tightened up. I asked, "Can I use this call now to address my faucet issue?” They said no. I paid $137 to have the gentleman tighten the faucet 15 seconds. When I had an electrical issue, and the repair person they sent out was fabulous. He knew what the problem was. He diagnosed it in a heartbeat and had it repaired in 30 minutes. I had another company come out, but the guy that they sent out was clueless. But I would still recommend American Home Shield. I also used them for a service call on my stove that had an electronic issue, and they ended up replacing my stove. But there's so much money that they'll spend on repairs before they replace.

My hot water heater went out on a Friday evening. DrainGo said, “We can't come out on Saturdays because American Home Shield would not pay the extra fee for us to come out.” I could pay $200 for them to come out, take a look at it and tell me what was wrong, or I could wait until Monday. They could tell me what was wrong, but they couldn't do anything about it because American Home Shield won’t open until Monday anyway. I waited until Monday morning. They came out Monday, looked at it, and said the hot water heater was bad. American Home Shield was going to replace the hot water heater based on the warranty I had. DrainGo said, “We'll do it, but it's gonna cost you an additional $1,000. We gotta modify the pipes for that.”
There are only two pipes - the water pipe that goes in and a pipe that goes out of the hot water heater. American Home Shield said they could pay $250 and I'd pay $750. But it shouldn't cost $1000 to get this done. All they have to do was cut the pipes, put a splitter line in it, and replace it. I had a neighbor who had replaced four water heaters and showed me how to do it. I got the new water heater, cut the line in the center, replaced the water heater and put a gap in between and clamped it on the end. What it cost me to do it on my own and the tool to do it was $40.
American Home Shield is a good warranty to have. I recommended that to my son and my sister-in-law. There are several plans and I got the premium plan. The reason why I got that one is when your air conditioner goes bad, it costs $100 a pound to put freon in. But the problem that I have with American Home Shield is most of the companies they go to are small businesses. The two companies that I've used with American Home Shield, DrainGo and another company that did my air conditioner, were trying to sell me more than what I needed. DrainGo came out twice. The first time they came out, I told them my pipes were rusty. They said there was nothing broken. It's just galvanized pipes.
According to American Home Shield, since it wasn't broken, they couldn't repair it. But I could pay for it on my own and give them $600 to do it. Brown water was coming out of my pipes but American Home Shield said they couldn't do it. I gotta get rid of these rusty pipes and it wasn't the whole pipe. It was a connection that connects the pipe. It was the elbow when it makes a turn straight up the wall. DrainGo replaced six of them and charged me $600 for it. So when my water heater went out, I told American Homes Shield I should not have to do it because what was wrong was my water heater was bad. I had already paid DrainGo $600 to do that, and I was not gonna pay them another $1,000 on top of that. This was a three-week period difference.

American Home Shield is probably the best out of what's out there, but nobody's happy with them. I've been with them for 30 years and it's tough dealing with their vendors. I had a toilet problem. It's a little more involved than the normal toilet and it's expensive. I sent pictures to the vendor and wanted to make sure they would send somebody out that was experienced but they didn't. It took longer because he didn't know what he was doing and I'm not sure he did it right when he left. He also did not clean up after himself. I tried calling him later to ask a question about something when he was ordering the parts but he didn't even return my call. I called the company twice and left a message for the manager but never got a call back. Also, it'd be nice to talk to someone whose first language is English. You tell them to slow down and talk slowly so you can understand because of their accent and they go right back into high speed.

I've had lots of experiences with American Home Shield. Recently, I had a problem with my air conditioner, and when the guy came out, I only paid the $100 for the service call. However, it cost me over a thousand dollars for the Freon, then the next day, my AC was not working again. The guy messed up, didn't completely seal the line, and it all leaked out. At least, I didn't have to pay anything else. I just had to go without air conditioning over the weekend. They don't come the next day typically. It's three, four days or sometimes even a week before American Home Shield gets someone out, but generally, they do okay.
The technicians aren't the highest quality as well. They don't seem to be as on the ball as much as they should. I had a refrigerator that had an ice maker that had to be repaired, and the guy only took 15 minutes to repair it. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that the reason it was messing up was because the hose that feeds the water was pushed in too far and it was spraying, and it caused it to lock up. So, I had to threaten American Home Shield with canceling in order to get them to come out and do something about it. They did, ultimately. They even reduced the price that I'm paying to try to keep me on as a customer, which was nice, but it's a shame I had to do that.
It had been a couple of months, and I know American Home Shield's deal is that it has to be done within 30 days in order to not have another service call. Still, I told the guy when I called that my wife has been in and out of the hospital several times. I'm her total caregiver, and I didn't have time. I just put up with the issue for three months, until finally she got a little better to where I could spend some time to call them. I got a resolution, but only by threatening them.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

By and large, dealing with a middleman is always less efficient than going to the source and American Home Shield is a middleman. And in general, the service worked out within what I would expect. But our recent claim for an air conditioning unit was terribly handled by AHS from start to finish. It was during the middle of the heat wave where the temperature was in the 90s and 100s the whole time and the soonest that their contractor could get to us was 10 days, which was understandable since it was in the middle of heat season.
We started the claim on June 6th and on the 16th, the technician came and assessed the fault. He knew the part that he would need to order and he said we could expect to hear from the office in a day or two. I waited until the end of the week and called American Home Shield to get an update because nothing was reflected on the website. They said they still didn't have the evaluation of the repair. So, I called the contractor on Friday and they said that the repair estimate had been sent to American Home Shield.
When I called American Home Shield back, they had closed for the weekend. When I got ahold of them, finally, on the 23rd, which was a week away from when the evaluation was made, they said they got the evaluation and it had been conditionally approved. But I haven't received any communication. I asked what conditionally approved meant and they said they've decided what they would repair versus what we would have to pay for. And they said because the compressor fluid costs $100 a pound but they only allow $10 a pound and they need three pounds, I had to approve a $270 charge.
Then they said I had to approve modifications for the repair. I asked what modifications and their reps said that that was just what the submitting company said. They said they didn't know what they were. I then asked if I didn't approve those modification, would the repair go forward. They said nothing would happen until I approve that. So, I told them that I'd approve that conditionally, but I wanted to talk to them and find out what I was approving and if modifications are needed. So, I talked to the local people and they said they'd have to see that and that they may need to make modifications. Then, I waited for four days and I still didn't hear anything again. After that, I called and they said they were waiting for the part because AHS would be sending it to them. So, I called American Home Shield again and they said the shop was ordering the part. So I called the shop back and they insisted that American Home Shield was ordering the part.
I spent two weeks going back and forth between American Home Shield and the local people before finally getting to the point where a part was ordered. It turned out that the claim was frozen because the customer service people didn't forward the approval for my cost component to the approval people in order to send it to the parts people to get the parts sent. So, when you put it all together, I was without my air conditioning for six weeks during the peak of the summer and none of the communication was initiated on their part. When I counted them up, I had made six calls to American Home Shield and 16 to the local repair people who were handling it.
Then, when they did the repair, they pulled the compressor out and they installed the new compressor. The compressor is a soldered in component. They cut the pipe and they reattached it. So, nothing needed to be modified. It was just the same part that was pulled out, put in, and installed. But they still charged me $285 for modifications. When I called to talk to the local people about modifications, they said they always charge a modification fee to put in the compressor. But American Home Shield told me that they covered the installation.
The contractor then said that I'd have to take that up with American Home Shield. So, I got ahold of American Home Shield and they said that installing the part was not part of the installation, it was a modification. I told them that I didn't think that was right because the techs were taking one part out and putting the exact same part in with no changes required. But they said they wouldn't pay it. So then they elevated it and the rep I talked to gave me some contract paragraphs for reference.
I asked to talk to a manager and it took two days for the manager to get back to me. She said she understood that I was unhappy with the repair. I told her my problem was that a part was replaced and I'm getting charged $285 to install the part when installation was supposed to be covered. She agreed that installation was covered but what was done to my unit was a modification. I told her that there was no modification since they just removed one part and installed the other part. She then said that the contractors always charge a modification to install the part. But I said that would make it a part of the installation.
I also read the portion of the contract that she told me allows them to refuse to pay that fee and it clearly did not apply. It said any modifications that are necessary to be made to our premises in order to facilitate the repair would be at our expense. I understand that if they have to re-run a pipe or if they have to do something on my end to make the repair fit. Or if they couldn't get the same part and they had to make a modification for the new part to fit. But none of those things were required in my situation. She then said that we were going around in circles, and she hung up on me. I was going to ask her if there was an appeal process or what the next step would be. And the next step when they hang up on you, I assume, would be binding arbitration. But for the $285, it's not worth binding arbitration, especially when they're the ones that pay the arbitrator. I also don't want to get my policy canceled.
Other than this claim, AHS has been pretty good about assigning somebody to my other claims. But the response typically is slower than I would expect if I call the local repairman and I don't know if that's because they over-contract the people that they start with or that's how busy the local people are. Usually, it's reasonable until you get to the point where it looks like they might have to replace the product.
We had one washing machine claim where the techs came out seven times. The first guy came out three times, then AHS said they would be sending somebody else out. So, they reassigned it and the second guy had to come out three times to confirm what the first guy said. Then the seventh trip was when he actually fixed it. The techs were changing different parts and trying to fix it, when the first guy had recommended they scrap the machine on his first visit. So, AHS ended up replacing the machine, but not until they've sent the techs out for seven times.
When I talked to the service guy, he said they get a flat fee from American Home Shield, so he didn't want to come back anymore. But every time they would send him a part and tell him to try it, he would have to make a trip out and he told me that he didn't get paid for anything except the initial trip. Maybe that's why the contractors are slow. Also, after my calls to AHS, they sent me a survey asking about my experience and I gave them one star. I also gave one star for the technician mostly because of the lack of communication. But even after giving them a 1 star and putting a small description of what my complaints were, I expected somebody to call up and follow up, but I got nothing.
But in the end, AHS would always come through if they have to and they've come through a couple of times. But part of that relationship upfront is that they know that with what they're paying these people, they don't want to make return trips. So, they're more likely to tell us to tear the whole unit out and replace it, so that they have to come back once to fix it. Whereas, on the other side, they want it fixed with the right part early on. And so, you have that initial conflict where the contractor doesn't want to waste a lot of his time troubleshooting it and the other side doesn't want to scrap it until they have to.

I've used American Home Shield for quite some time (ever since I bought my first house) and I've been pleased each time. I'm a single parent, so it's nice to have that as a security. They had American Team do my garage door and they were fantastic. It was simple, easy and everything worked perfectly. I'm very happy. Currently, I have a claim out for a stoppage. I called the plumber and they have not returned my call. It canceled at one point in time, and then I was asked if I wanted it again and I said yes. I'm not sure if it's fine because I'm traveling quite a bit right now. However, I always have my phone on me and they have not called. It's taking forever. I don't know why that's happening and I'm not upset over it 'cause they'll refund my money if they don't get somebody out here. It's just there's something going on with the plumber American Home Shield is using.

When I contact American Home Shield, one of their vendors gets back to me. I get the response the same day, and it's always Liberty. That's who they use. One time, the fan in my compressor broke, and my air conditioner stopped working. I contacted American Home Shield in a panic because there was a heat wave. I got a call from Liberty that same day and the guy came that same day as well, but unfortunately, he didn't have the part. He was back eight o'clock the next morning with the fan, fixed it, and I had air conditioning by 8:30. I have no complaints about the service at all. I love them.
About three years ago, someone in my office was talking about their air conditioning that broke, and they called American Home Shield and they were great. So I gave them a try, and every time I have needed something, it was within a day or two, I had service, and the issue was solved. They came in the beginning of the summer too. My air conditioner was blowing hot air and I needed Freon. They came to put the Freon in, and that same day, it was up and running. I tell everybody about American Home Shield, and I would recommend them to anybody.

I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. I call to schedule an appointment, and in a timely fashion, the repair person gets in touch with me and they take care of my needs. Recently, someone came out to repair my washer that was leaking. Since it was non-repairable, they recommended that a new one would be installed, and that was taken care of as well. It went quickly. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to anyone who's looking for that type of insurance.

The temperatures were different in different parts of our refrigerator, so we called in about that. American Home Shield sent a technician out and he said that we needed a part and that they would follow up with us when they had it. About two weeks later, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called the technician's company back. They said that they still don't have the part. Two days later, I called back, and they said that they still didn't have the part and didn't know what was going on. By that point, it’d been three weeks. They asked me to follow up with American Home Shield, which I did.
Somehow, the appliance repair company miraculously found and had the part, and the technician was at our house in a couple days fixing our refrigerator. The claim took three weeks. Typically, the length of time to get something fixed is a lot shorter, but that's largely dependent on the repair company that American Home Shield reaches out to. Besides that, my experience with American Home Shield has been easy.

I haven't used American Home Shield, except when I called in three years ago. The spring on my garage door broke, and they didn't have anybody in my area that could come out for a week. My husband was severely ill, and I needed to get out of the garage in case of an emergency. I wasn't thrilled with that. I ended up getting my garage door repaired on my own. After going back and forth many times, they ended up paying for the visit of the person, which was about $100. I also found out, in the end, they didn't even cover springs.

When I had a claim for my kitchen oven, it was done to fruition from the start. Even though I paid more for an upgrade, it was fine. But I was a little divided about the attention I got on the last time I went to the site. I thought my claim was something to do with my heat pump, and so the contractor came out and they said it wasn't. It was electrical and the tech said, “I will call and refer you to an electrical.” Then there was another issue, and he said, “Well, refer that out too, so we’d give you somebody to go to.” But he never called back. Three days later, I hired an electrician to fix it. I didn't understand why he didn't get back with me. I went over my finances and my daughter decided that at this point in my life, I can pay out of pocket for a lot of the repairs compared to what my monthly fee is.
American Home Shield turned me down on some ducting work that I had to pay out of pocket. That was 500 to get under there and re-attach some ductwork to the furnace. American Home Shield said they didn't cover that. I was disappointed because it did say ductwork on my contract. When I went to cancel, American Home Shield offered to take back the $100 that the tech charged me to come out and say it wasn't his problem. But he didn't touch anything and he didn't give me a referral, so they felt bad enough to wanna reimburse me if I signed back up. But I told them that I've already made up my mind. Overall, everyone's done what I thought they should do and most part, I love the contractors they've sent to me, so it's not bad. It's just one incident, and then the fact that I am paying $70 a month. I can save enough in six months to buy myself a new whatever.

My air conditioner unit quit working and then it was making a really shrill noise. So, we shut everything off and got portable AC units from Home Depot temporarily. I called the Home Shield and they took the information and the address. Then they contacted somebody, Crispy Air. It took a couple of days for them to come out and they fixed a motor thing up there. They were wonderful. They had the parts right there on the vehicle. I was excited that they got it fixed. It's up and working now for a month. I got American Home Shield about five years ago when I retired because I knew I'd have to live on half my pay that I had been receiving previously, just to guarantee if anything terrible happened, and they've been awesome. I like that they're very affordable and they stand behind their claim. They were punctual, efficient, professional, and very friendly. I had no qualms with them understanding what my issue was and concern.

I had a claim earlier in the year that the contractor already came out and I was very unhappy. It never got resolved by them. With my most recent claim, my bottom air conditioner was not turning on or it would turn on and off quickly. The tech came out and determined that the line was blocked a little bit. The floats were activated and that was why it was shutting off. He blew out the line and I was quite satisfied with the technician that came out that day.
With American Home Shield, I like the peace of mind that if equipment breaks, they'll cover it. But my biggest complaint is that they usually hire very cheap, poor contractors. They get the cheapest contractors who I found a lot of times were not very reliable and not good and often require follow-up visits. In fact, I've gotten to the point where I have a list of the contractors and if they assign one of those, I call up and ask them to change them.
The other thing I'm very dissatisfied with is when I call American Home Shield, I usually get someone who I have a very hard time understanding. They also seem to have a hard time understanding me and are not very responsive or don't seem to be motivated. They definitely are following a script from AHS just to say no to everything they can and are not really customer-oriented. So, that's also another frustrating point.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

I did a claim a year ago for my garbage disposal. Everything with that was fine. But I had issues in the beginning of June with a claim where American Home Shield sent somebody out who wasn't able to do my air conditioner because they were not able to have roof access. They didn't have a ladder. So, I waited and waited. July, they finally found somebody else. But I paid them $125 for that service. When I told them that they weren't able to do the service and I waited so long, they said, "Okay. We will refund this money to you back." They found a vendor that was able to come and fix my air conditioner. They said, "You owe us a $125." I said, "You guys said that it was gonna be refunded back.” And I would use that 125 to pay for this service. But I never got the refund back from that transaction.
They came because it went out again. They said they would not charge me because it was the same service, the 125. But they came out and fixed it again. After that, somebody else was called and came out to my house and I said, "No. The problem has been resolved. It's working fine now." A third person came out and I explained to him, "No. I don't have another order in. They may have been mistaken. They came out and they resolved the problem." I don't know why there was another person who came out. I don't know if the signals were crossed. But they didn't even come into my house because I wasn't home. I didn't expect them to be there. They called me and said, "We're outside." But that problem has been resolved.
I don't know what's going on with that. I've been waiting for the refund. I would pay that because I keep getting a statement saying I owed 125. So, I don't know what the deal is. I had called before. I said, "I keep getting a thing that says I owe 125." The lady I talked to through customer service said, "No. We're refunding you the money back." I said, "Okay. And I'm gonna use that money that I refund back to pay for this service then. Can't you instead of refunding me just put it towards the bill?" She said, "No. We have to refund it to you." But nothing has happened. I don't wanna have a bill out there that collects interest. I don't know if it does. This whole situation was crazy.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

There were two instances that American Home Shield did some work where I ended up paying a lot out-of-pocket. One of them was for an air conditioner. It was for things that weren't covered by American Home Shield and they charged a lot of money for a piece of copper that was three feet long. When I called them and asked about it, the vendor said that since it was not covered, based on what American Home Shield pays them, they couldn't make any money so they charge more for these things that aren't covered to be able to make a profit. I was surprised he was that honest with me.
There are things that American Home Shield doesn't cover that they claim they have to do that I end up paying for and that's real frustrating. If they can't make money on what you're doing with them, then they don't need to be making money by charging me more. The other thing was a compressor replacement and American Home Shield paid for the compressor, but they had to put in some additional things, or at least they claim they did, that weren't covered. So to me, there was a disconnect that cost me money. That was frustrating.
Submitting a claim was pretty straightforward, except online, it didn't have HVAC system. There were fewer options than usual. It wants you to identify what you're calling about, and so I went to the air conditioning, and there were only three options. So I ended up calling it in instead of doing it online. That was kind of irritating. The contractor came out and checked it out. But they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and that was it.

We've had some excellent people come out and help with problems. We've not had any major stuff like air conditioning. We had one time where they came out and put some Freon in. American Home Shield didn't pay for it. They just paid for the service call. But it just continues to go up and our service continues to go down. We don't have any way to say, "Hey, this is who we're going to allow to come do our work, and this is who's not going to." The last few things that they have done for us were more trouble than it was worth.
American Home Shield sent people out for the refrigerator that weren't qualified to do the work. They went out there, looked at it and said, "We don't do that." That happened twice. A year before last, we had a washing machine that went out. We were without a washing machine for six months. It's just not clear what the guidelines are. This last time, we bought a stove and American Home Shield wouldn't even entertain trying to help us get somebody to install it and do it right. So we had to buy one and make a deal with American Home Shield. We take the money to go buy one and then hire somebody to put it in and take the old one off. It's just inconsistencies.
We've got a company out of Oneonta, which is close to us. They've come out and done several things and they've been fantastic. All the contractors have been fantastic. But everybody else is incompetent. I don't know how American Home Shield chooses their people. They don't let me have a say-so in it. So I'm just not gonna participate anymore. I'm gonna be 68 on my birthday and I don't hear as well as I used to.
It's next to impossible to get somebody on the phone that you can understand and half the stuff on the computer doesn't give me the option I need. So I have to call somebody, and I get somebody in a foreign country. They got a canned speech and no matter what you say, that's all they know what to do. If I hear, "No worries," one more time, I'll throw up. I wind up getting put off and put to another call. Then they put me on hold while they contacted somebody else. This happened about five times in the past few years. When they put me off, I wind up getting cut off and have to go through the same process over and over again.

The garage door was opening and closing by itself for no reason, almost like a ghost. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The first guy who came out could not solve the problem, but he guessed that something was wrong with the whole programmer thing and it would have to be replaced. He said that it was maybe due to storm damage. Then he said it was due to a power surge. I did not like that American Home Shield came back and said, “Hey, a power surge is not covered.” The first guy was gonna charge me some $800. So I said, “Firstly, you don't know. You're guessing. And then you're taking it to the next level by guessing that it's a power surge.” If it's a power surge, it would not work at all. It would not just do this thing where it's working on its own.
The good thing about American Home Shield was that they offered a second opinion. I liked that The second guys came out and said, “Well, we don't know, but it cannot be a power surge because the board would be completely fried if it was a power surge and it wouldn't work at all.” They said it was likely the switch. They were able to solve the problem. I am happy to recommend American Home Shield.

I sent in a claim when my refrigerator broke. I had three different companies come out multiple times. But the guy couldn't figure it out and then he just said it was good enough and he was gonna replace the valve. Then I got an email from American Home Shield saying it was complete, but it wasn't. He was very rude. In the end, I took cash in lieu of a replacement and I just bought another one. But the techs from Hope Appliances were very helpful and they tried everything. I've been 100% satisfied with American Home Shield because none of the things I've had were emergencies. When my AC went out, it wasn't during the hottest time, so I was able to get through for a few days until they got out there. But so far I'm very happy with all of their contractors. When I had a plumbing issue, the system inside wouldn't stop running so it was constantly going. For that $100 service, the people that came back replaced the entire toilet. They said, “We're not gonna mess around, just try to figure it. We're just gonna get you a brand new toilet.” I can't be happier. I've never had to pay for anything outside of the deductible that I have to pay for every call.
The nice thing is I've had claims where American Home Shield couldn't get the part, and they had to come back out, and I didn't get charged anything else for it. Everything was still covered on the deductible on the original case. I had a claim that was related to the same issue, but it was three months apart, and American Home Shield said, “We're still gonna count it towards that first deductible. You won't owe another one.” This is super helpful, and they were really good about it.

The last company that American Home Shield hired was a company called FAS. It was for my refrigerator and I had an issue because of the promptness in evaluating the problem and then sending the report to American Home Shield so that they can turn around and evaluate it. They were given so many hours or days to do the process and that became a pain in the butt. We were without a refrigerator for a little more than a month in the middle of summer. I got upset and I did several chats with American Home Shield and I expressed my frustration.
The people in the chat and the phone could only say or do so much, and I understand that. I don't blame them at all for that. But I was hoping that in expressing my frustration to anybody that it was passed on to the people that might be able to do something about it. In one of my chats, I told them, "These people have a 2-star rating and they don't have good reviews." One of the individuals on the chat turned around and told me that they do not consider reviews from any vendors or any outside people. This was a customer that was telling them and they just brushed me off. At the end, it worked out okay. They couldn't fix it, so I got a new refrigerator, which was fine.
Initially, the contractor for my refrigerator was Sears because it was a Kenmore. I said, "Great." Sears is a great outfit. They gave me a commitment on the 19th of the month. So then I said, "Good. That's only two days away. I can handle that." Then Sears sent me an email telling me that they have pushed out that date to come out here to the 21st. I said, "I can't have that. I need to get you guys out here." They said, "Well, we'll see what we can do." They sent me another email telling me that it had now been pushed out to the 26th, and I said, "I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna do that."
I called American Home Shield, and then that was when they assigned the FAS. It took five days for the initial repair technician to come out. I don't know what they all consider an emergency, but I would think in the middle of summer, your air conditioner, refrigerator, or freezer is an emergency. The response time would be my only complaint on that. I also wish American Home Shield would listen to me when I tell them I don't wanna work with the contractor. But that's where we're at right now.
Overall, American Home Shield has been good to me. They worked on the claims. Some of them took longer than others because of the contractor they assigned. But once it was all resolved, everything was good. It's just this monthly thing that went up from 83 to 95. That's $12 a month. If American Home Shield is gonna be increasing my monthly fee every year, then I'm not gonna deal with them anymore. My wife and I are both on Social Security and we're on a budget. When this happened, I mentioned it to her, and she told me, "You need to start looking at other companies." There's one company that's quoting me right now that's one-third of what American Home Shield is charging me for the month.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I called to try to get an appointment. As soon as American Home Shield sent me over who would come, I called them because I have an elderly parent. They didn't have any air. I tried to get it done as soon as possible. A gentleman answered. He said he would have his manager call me right back. But I never got a call back. So, I called AHS and told them what the issue was. AHS and I were back and forth on the phone. They tried to get ahold of them. They got ahold of them. And they said that they would expedite it and they accepted the request to be able to come out that day. American Home Shield said, "Give them an hour." They would call me back to confirm with them. Over an hour had passed, I didn't hear from them.
I called AHS and they told me they talked to the contractor and that they would come out that day. They would reach out to me about the time. I said, "Okay. No problem." When I got off the phone, I looked at my phone and it said a missed call. They let the call go through enough so to say a missed call because my phone never clicked. I immediately called back and a girl said, "My manager is gonna call. He's on the phone right now. He's gonna call you right back." Never got a call back. I had to keep calling them back.
I called AHS back and they told me that they got in touch with them again and they said that they were trying to contact me, but I didn't answer the phone. I said, "They called, but I promise you. My phone never rang. They did it where it would ring and hung up." My theory was correct. I called them back. The manager answered, "Hello. Is this Miss **?" I said, "Yes. Listen, I need y'all to come out." He was said, "We tried to call. The guy who was in the area, he's already gone for the day." I said, "You never called me as far as the phone rang for me to answer it. I know what you did." He said, "I texted you, too." I said, "What number did you text? I don't have any text message on my phone." He called out a different number.
I said, "Where did you get that number from?" "AHS gave me that number. Then they gave me the right number." I said, "AHS could have never given you the wrong number. I've had this policy with them for a couple of years. I have never changed the numbers. Only two numbers that will be on that account, my number and my husband's phone number." So, she lied about that. It all came to fruition.
The tech came out that morning. I said, "I was looking for you to come yesterday. It was hot in here. My parent was hot." He said, "I'm so sorry. I wouldn't have made it yesterday anyway. They had me in Lafayette till 7:00 PM. And I'm the only senior tech." I called AHS back and told them what happened. I said, "Believe your client. I have no reason to lie about anything and how it happened, especially if I'm trying to get my air fixed." Why didn't he leave a voicemail message? He changed the capacitor. The ac is cold as hell. But these contractors that AHS has, especially these AC people, are full of it.
I had another one because I got another house in New Orleans east, and it has always been a problem with the AC techs. They have never even fixed my problem in the east. One tech didn't do anything. He said the unit needed to be cleaned before he could do anything to it. I said, "What do you mean? The unit was just cleaned three months ago." He said, "If it's been cleaned three months ago, we don't have to do it." I said, "Okay." Then he came back, "Well, no. It needs to be clean and it's gonna be $150 and AHS doesn't cover that." So, he never fixed it.

It took me two months to get a plumber to come and do something. I kept calling American Home Shield and they kept saying they would contact the contractor. That was very stressful. Then, I had my dryer repaired this past month and it took me three contractors. They didn't call or communicate that they weren't coming. And one Saturday, I stayed home for a nine-hour window. Then the Tuesday after, while I was at work, I got a text saying the tech was on his way. I couldn't leave, so I had to reach out to my family and asked somebody to go to the house and be present because I had someone coming to the door that needed the door open.
Aside from that, the rates just keep going up. I paid 85 the first year, then it went up to 108. And now, it went to 124 just to have the service. So, that's $48 more than I was paying and that's just to keep sending somebody. But the headaches were horrible and I was not getting the service that I needed. You can't give me crappy service and raise my premiums. Also, I like to call when I have a claim and make sure that they understand. However, the last time, it was an automated call and that was horrible. And when I get to speak to their reps, their attitudes are good, but their knowledge is basically what's on the screen in front of them. They don't really know any more to say other than that is what they have. And they don't really elevate unless you request them to elevate your concern.

I am very satisfied with American Home Shield. It's who their vendors are that I'm not happy with. I'm sitting here waiting on a stove to be fixed that AHS said they ordered the parts. But the parts have not been ordered, or else I would have a tracking number. I've had my son here from Tacoma since the 11th. I've got some more company coming from Southern Illinois on the 23rd. I have no way to cook and I've been without this stove since the 4th. AHS pawned it off on the Sears. Sears pawned it off on AHS. In the meantime, I have no way to cook and I'm sitting here with no stove. I'm trying to get them to move on. But they keep telling me, "We gotta go through protocol." If they have not found that part by now, they're not going to find that part. The rep told me today I'm not gonna have my stove until October 3rd. I am not gonna deal with this, that the 21 days will run until October 3rd and that they exclude weekends.
I'm done with this. I am so upset right now, because I've never had an experience like this from AHS. They have always had somebody here. If they couldn't fix it, they got me a new one. When my air conditioner went out, AHS had somebody here the next day and fixed. But Sears told me that AHS gives them 21 days to find the part. It doesn't take 21 days to find the part. If they can't find the parts, they need to do stuff with my stove. AHS should never send Sears here again to repair anything for me. I see why Sears went out of business in this town. Because they don't tend to make their customers happy. I can't wait until October 3rd to get a stove. I need to cook now. I wanna know what AHS is gonna do about this. They need to do something immediately. I want somebody from AHS to call me and tell me they better get this resolved.

My dishwasher wasn't working. I made a claim with AHS and they did a buy out towards a new one because the expenses exceeded what it would cost to get a new one. With the money they gave, you can get a cheap one, but you're not going to get the quality of what you had. Also, their price has gone up significantly. Initially, it started out around $67 and I pay close to $95 a month now. Then for the service call, they used to be 75 and for the most recent one I had, it was 110. Aside from that, when you contact them, there are times you get stuck on the phone or it’s hard to get with the people you need to talk to.

I placed in a claim on July 8th for my dishwasher. This is the second claim on the same dishwasher in the last year and a half. Ramb’s came out. They found out that there were several parts that needed to be ordered. We ordered them. American Home Shield approved it. When Ramb's showed up, they showed up with a broken part. It wasn't the wrong part. And I gathered from AHS, Ramb’s reported to them that the wrong part was ordered. So, AHS ordered the correct part a second time. This delayed the process, which I understood. But that's not what happened.
I saw when the tech removed the motor out from the box that it came in and he broke the wire. That is what caused the delay. When the part got here, I was scheduled for them to come to install it, but instead they canceled the appointment, told me that the technician had a family emergency. So, they rescheduled it again. When they finally came, they sent a different technician, a much older man. He installed it, but he never installed the kick plate. He never put the screws back in place to keep it mounted to the cabinet that it was mounted to. And it leaked. I wound up calling AHS after four visits. Ramb’s came to my house four times, said they completed the job. We used the machine and that night it leaked.
I called AHS back. They sent Ramb’s to come over just to tighten it up, put the kick plate back, and put the screws back in. But when he came here, I chose to record because they had already been here three times. Here's the fourth time. They had already lied to AHS that the wrong part was ordered, but in reality, the right part was ordered. He never took the unit out. He has to take the unit out, flip it sideways so he can tighten the hose from underneath, that's where he installed the motor. He never wanted to do that. He hand-tightened it and wanted to leave. You could see in the video that I recorded. You could hear me asking him, "How come you're not tightening that with a wrench? You can't tighten that with your fingers." It would not gonna do any good.
He refused. He didn't put fresh Teflon tape on it and put that fitting on. He just tried to hand-tighten with two fingers that fit underneath the machine because not even his whole hand fit under there. And he tried to tighten the machine. He said, "It's tightened and that's it. I don't see any leaks." "No. That's not how that works. I know that it's gonna leak again.” I insisted that he do the job correctly. He refused. He gathered his equipment and would leave. I've been recording him and calling Ramb’s at the same time telling them, "He's here, but he refuses to tighten the hose and he's leaving. He doesn't wanna do the job." He left. They said, "We'll talk to him when he gets back."
The next thing I knew AHS assigned Mr. Repair A/C. They came and found that the hose needed tightening. It also needed to be balanced. It was off-balanced from when the RAmb's tech installed the motor. He never rebalanced the unit and never put the kick plate back nor did he put the screws back in. Mr. Repair A/C is walked in saying, "Where's the screws for this? So, I can put it back. And where's the screws for your kick plate?" I didn't have any of that. I didn't have that to begin with because I wasn't the one who assembled the unit. That was Ramb’s. Ramb’s lied to AHS, "We don't have any brackets. It never came with brackets. And the screws, he had it in a bowl.” I don't know what bowl he was talking about. I never had the screws. I never touched the screws or the bracket. The only thing I have is the kick plate that is still on the floor. And I'm waiting so that my unit is repaired.
Mr. Repair A/C is going back to AHS saying, "The brackets are missing." AHS has a policy where, "If there's missing parts, we don't deal with missing parts." But the parts were not missing to begin with. If they were missing, wouldn't have Ramb’s told AHS, "This thing is missing parts”? They ordered a bunch of stuff. Why didn't they say, "He needs brackets and he needs screws for his kick plates"? Ramb's didn't tell AHS that because that stuff was already there. AHS kept sending me to an escalation desk, where for some reason, they were not able to comprehend this. I had some supervisor on the phone yesterday and I had Mr. Repair A/C on the phone. I tried to get Ramb’s on the phone too, but they didn't wanna talk to us. But Mr. Repair A/C spoke to both me and AHS.
I wound up giving Mr. Repair A/C a bad review because I got an email from AHS that said, "Mr. Repair A/C has closed this claim out saying that the work is complete. Please rate their service.” So, I told the truth. They called me back, "Why did you just give us a bad rating? We're waiting to get an approval so we can go and help you. Why would you do that to us?" I said, “According to this email, you told American Home Shield that you completed the job and you want a rating. So, here it is. I'm telling the truth. You guys never came back to repair nothing.” And they wanted to make sure that they got paid at the same time because they clearly stated they didn't wanna touch anything. They said, "We just wanna make sure that we're getting paid for whatever we do there. And we're just waiting on American Shield." It's horrible.
We're about to pay for another 12-month contract. AHS is getting ready to take this off of auto pay, but we haven't even resolved a claim from the last 12 months. So, I'm baffled. I'm stuck thinking, "Wait. What happened here?" We told them we had a video. "We'll send it to you guys." Everybody said, "No." And we were, "We're trying to prove to you guys what happened." They kept saying something about, "We're waiting on the field technician's report." I said, "Why don't you just have the field technician come to my house? And they could take pictures. They could look at this video. They could see exactly what was done.”
I would like to know what's gonna happen. I've been waiting for over two and a half weeks just for a manager to call me back. An actual manager, not someone from an escalation desk or someone who is contracted by AHS. I'd rather speak to an actual employee of AHS. I do business in this country. I pay taxes in this country. And I know there's a process that both AHS and me as a customer has to follow. I'm just asking AHS to respect that process, that when I escalate a call, to let me speak to somebody in the company. Because it's bad when you transfer the call or the person that is returning the call is a vendor. And you could tell they're vendors. You can tell they're not from here.
This is about talking to a company that has the authorizations and the authority to make things happen for their customers, whereas their vendors do not have that same leverage. I'm only asking to deal with the actual company that has my personal information, who contracts third parties to come to my home, where my wife and my children are, that's my treasure. On top of that, I am making business. I'm doing clean business, making on-time payments with AHS' auto pay process. That way, when I have a discrepancy with an appliance that AHS is able to help me within the contract terms, not that I have to keep waiting.
I understand that AHS has to investigate and take statements from the vendors. But for their vendors, the ones that have been calling me back, posing his managers to tell me, "This is the statement from Ramb’s or from Mr. Repair A/C or the contractor that we're sending to you,” and telling me what they're commenting. That is a lie. I almost feel as if I have to prove myself where I shouldn't have to. The whole thing is very uncomfortable. If they don't trust and believe in me, why are we doing business? It's the same. The shoe is now on the other foot and now I have to weigh in on how much I trust AHS to take care of my issues because they have been taking my payments, but they have been stretching my issues too far on for me to wanna even deal with it.
This is the second time I've put in a claim for the same dishwasher. I'm not sure why the first guy didn't come and see, "All these things needed to be replaced. Let's just replace it." Warranty companies fix the problem and that's it. They move on. They don't look for any other causes. But at the same time, if I've been spend this money, I expect a bit of professionalism and more of timely responses. We're two and a half months later. This is not cool.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

The technician came and made a diagnosis of the damage and he said that it needed total replacement. Also, this is broken and that's broken. My husband was able to affirm because my husband is a civil engineer and he knows exactly. We decided to have it totally replaced, the garage and the motor, and the contractor did a good job. Everything is always just okay with American Home Shield. There's an expectation that the companies that they use would be familiar with the items and know what breaks down. And it always comes down to them coming out and not having the parts with them. If they don't fix it the first time, then the parts are on order. One of the most frustrating things is when they ask you on the website to give them the model number. The contractors are usually good. I’ve only had one problem over the years and I just don’t ever use that contractor, but most are okay. They leave a clean environment. Sometimes, it takes a while for them to go through the motions of trying to fix issues once, twice, or three times.

I was very dissatisfied with them. They tried to tell me that the repair cost for my AC was an additional $1,650.00 because of work that needed to be performed outside of the required. Such as electrical, when I had all electrical in place to current code, a condenser resting pad, when my unit was already set for a wall mount, ductwork that was not required. The technician who came out clearly told me no ductwork would be required, however, because they don't make much money from their contract with American Home Shield, they charge for things not needed, or extremely upcharge for other work done directly to the customer.
When I told American Home Shield the situation they only kept repeating the same thing offering me a payout for a system they chose, but would not tell me what that system was at all. Once I agreed to the payout due to the fraudulent quote, they the amount was half of the cost of a replacement unit. This company is extremely crooked. Went for several weeks without AC during the hottest time of the year because of them. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

The ice part of the refrigerator wasn't cooling and wouldn’t freeze. I picked up the phone, called American Home Shield and told them what the problem was. They told me the name of the contractor and that they would be contacting me in 24 hours. They contacted me the same day that I put the claim in and they were very professional. The gentleman explained to me what went out on it and they had to order the part. We went through the Beryl and I didn't have electricity so it didn't bother me not to have a refrigerator. I didn't have lights for nine days and they contacted me on the 10th day. Other than that, everything was very professional. They came out that Friday and the guy told me what he was putting in and showed me what was causing the freeze.
I've had AHS for quite a while. I was told by a friend about it and so far, I've never had problems. It’s been a wonderful experience with AHS. They send me a letter during the first of the year when it's time to serve my AC unit. I had two lights that were not working on the exterior of my house and when the electricity went out the other day, the generator did not turn on anything in the house. The tech from Ideal Electric came out and fixed one of my exterior lights. Then he figured out that one of the exterior lights was not wired. When they remodeled, they forgot to wire it back in. I couldn't find my keys for the generator and we didn't even get a look at it. So, I'm gonna have to do another claim.
Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is simple. They sent me an email and a text message that it had been submitted to Ideal Electric. Before the tech came, he called to set up a time and then, he texted me 30 minutes out that he was coming. He did a great job. The gas line was getting worked on at the same time. So, it was a little bit crazy at my house and he was good with it. I got AHS because I got divorced and I am not very technically inclined. So when things happen, I need some help. They've come out and replaced the refrigerator for me as well as the pool pump. I've been protected since 2020 and it's worth the money.

The door made a lot of noise and wouldn’t open and the contractor came out in two days. They were prompt and prepared and fixed it on their first visit. They told me everything in detail. They said the gear on the power unit on my garage door opener was stripped and that they would have to replace the whole unit. It was very old and couldn't be repaired. It was the sending unit and a lot of structure was involved in that. Then all the buttons and the remote were part of the new unit. The contractor was excellent but American Home Shield didn't know what they were doing. They didn't have anybody in their contact list who was any good or local.
The first company finally called and said they would get back to me when it fits their schedule and set up an appointment. Because it was a half-hour drive for them. I called and complained to American Home Shield and they found a contractor that they thought was local. AHS didn't know anything about the people that they were using and I had to do the research myself, and this is not why I had a home warranty. One of the main benefits would be convenience for me. So now, it had become inconvenient. This company they hired had no local footprint nor local employees. They were located in Arizona so they tried to find a local subcontractor to do it and failed. I was trying to be patient about that.
I got back to American Home Shield and went round and round. I tried to communicate with them through their call center and I eventually bullied them into getting somebody new. But I hate dealing with the call centers. They are not local and don't know what they're talking about. I had to explain to them about the difference between Arizona and Washington. Finally, they researched it and found Harmony out of Vancouver which is 40 miles away. They were very responsive and came out within 24 hours and fixed it.
I no longer have coverage with American Home Shield. It was bought for me when I bought the house and it seemed reasonably priced at the time. I had a year's coverage and then, I kept it. At that time, the price was $60 a month. It is now over $120 a month, which is not a good deal. I had AHS for seven years. It seemed like a good way to know what my expenses were gonna be.
AHS was bought out by corporate interests and then costs were cut. I used to be able to contact them directly. But they fired all those employees, the new corporate bosses and outsourced everything to the call center. It is impossible to contact American Home Shield. I asked the call center where they are located and I was told that’s a secret. The rep said she couldn’t tell me what their home office is. I don't know that AHS has a home office because they don't do anything. The call center is the one that's calling from South Asia to find local contractors. They do that part and take my calls and complaints. I'm not sure what there is left for American Home Shield to do except cash my checks.

We've had American Home Shield since we acquired the house in 2012, and I recommend it as I normally don't have a lot of problems. We have someone come out, and they address it. It's just the last couple of service calls we've had that we weren't happy with. We had an issue where A-US Air of Texas had come out for a service call ‘cause our AC wasn't working. It wasn't cooling, then all of a sudden, it stopped coming on. When the tech came up, there was an issue where there wasn't a place for him to stand in the attic to service the unit. He didn't communicate well, and then he just left. He said, “Oh, I'm gonna go check the outdoor unit.” My husband said he doesn't even know if he did that.
Had the tech just told us what he needed, it would have taken us five minutes to provide an access thing for him to stand on, because we had things in our garage that we were then able to lay out for him and attach to the boards in the attic for him to stand on. However, we've already worked that out. We had to call the vendor and American Home Shield, and they were able to come back out and complete the service call. Now, the unit is on, but we may have to do another service call because it's not cooling. To see if we need to place another service call or not, we're trying to determine if it's because it's just really hot or if there is a cooling problem.

I am a retired veteran, and I need work done. I also submitted a claim for an HVAC unit and gave another $100. I needed a whole replacement of HVAC, and they didn't help me out, but that's okay. I had already ordered a unit and it’s more than I needed. However, American Home Shield allots 5,000 for an HVAC unit, and they should have just granted me that 5,000 to put on the one that I was having installed in the house. I was gonna have to get a company to do it anyway, ‘cause the man that they sent wasn't gonna be able to do the whole thing by himself. Still, I recommend American Home Shield. It's good to have it.

We live in a condo and the condo was built in the '70s. We were afraid of things going wrong so for our own peace of mind, we've kept American Home Shield for eight years. Usually though, if something goes wrong, it's on the weekend and they don't offer any services on the weekends. We've ended up having to pay it out of our pocket every time.
Our air conditioner went out the 29th of May. We waited almost six weeks for them to send a compressor but American Home Shield sent what they called a refurbished compressor. They picked a local company, and we knew of them. They got up there, put the compressor in and said, "We don't like using these things, but that's what they sent us." We waited almost six weeks to get it, it lasted three weeks then it went out. We waited four more weeks for another one to come in to replace it. They came in, put it in and it completely went haywire and blew up our air conditioner. Smoke alarms went off and the fire department showed up. We exited the house and thought the roof was on fire the way the smoke looked like. But it ended up being freon gas. It filled the house up with freon gas and set off the smoke alarms. It was venting out the pipes where it blew up the metal lines, and that was their refurbished compressor that did that.
Now, we still don't have air conditioning and we've had record heat. Here in Bakersfield, California, it's 114 degrees. It's been 92 degrees inside this thing downstairs. We've been sleeping in recliners because we can't stand upstairs. We ended up buying some portable things that stand around and vent out through the windows. We have one downstairs and one upstairs. You can't get more than 10 feet away from them. Otherwise, it doesn't work.
We're on the third air conditioner company. They were here Monday, went up there and said it needs to be replaced. They turned around and sent that information to American Home Shield but we are still waiting to hear what they're gonna do. They are familiar with our situation and they're a Bryant company. We have a Bryant unit on the roof and they could swap it out in a day, but American Home Shield doesn't move that fast. It would take them a week if not longer to determine what they're gonna do. If they say, "We're gonna send the unit," they'll put it on a freight truck and it'll take a month or longer to get here. It would come from Tennessee and it doesn't come quick.
American Home Shield doesn't move quick at all and don't pay these people fast either. Because of the heat, the control board in the refrigerator went out. We thought of calling the repairman ourselves. It cost us $422.69 for him to fix this thing. He used to do contract work for American Home Shield, but because they're so slow on paying, he told American Home Shield for them not to ever call him again, that he's off their list.
I would never recommend American Home Shield to anybody. In fact, I went on Facebook and was asking if any attorneys out there want this job. When we read our contract, arbitration is the only thing we can do and their part is limited to $50,000. If they don't get this thing done, I'm going after them for that, and I will get 50,000 out of them because of how long this has taken. I've threatened them with that three times. It's the only reason that they started moving. Otherwise, they were ignoring us. My wife and I are in our 70s with health issues, but they don't care. I haven't been able to work because I can't leave my wife in this place with no air conditioning. It's costing me half a year's pay because of this mess.

When I put a claim in with AHS, Sloan came out and wrote everything down what they needed and submitted that to American Home Shield. But American Home Shield and I could not get ahold of them. They would not answer a text message, an email or a phone call for several weeks. It took me almost three months to get my air conditioning fixed. When they fixed it, they did a crappy job. I had an old system using the old Freon. They said, "We have to replace this with the new Freon." I said, "Don't you have to replace the coil inside the house to make it compatible then?" They said, "Oh, no. You'll be fine." That was wrong. I had to pay 2,800 bucks out of my own pocket to have someone else come in and replace the coil.
They didn't know what they were doing. They didn't do the lines properly. The lines had to be redone. Also, when Sloan left, the air conditioning was turned on and it was only stayed on for just a few hours. And it had all frozen up because of the coil not being compatible. I'm upset with Sloan and I dropped American Home Shield. I got the coverage of AHS because I'm 72 years old. I live alone and I can't fix this stuff myself. I can't afford to and so I'd only have to pay $100 out of my own pocket. But it wound up costing me $2,000 out of my own pocket with American Home Shield. They didn't cover the freon and the labor. They just covered the cost of the condenser itself.

I had two claims on the same day. One refrigerator was at least years old so the contractor couldn't work on it. For the second refrigerator, they ordered a part for it and that part came a week later. I didn't like the last contractor. They didn't leave me a written diagnosis, and they put a lot of stuff that was inaccurate in the diagnosis so American Home Shield is in the process of re-evaluating.

I contacted American Home Shield when our air conditioning unit went out and they set up a company to come in to evaluate it. They notified me in an email that that company was the one that they were sending out and they scheduled a date and time for that. Then I got a call from that company to confirm everything and they came out on the time that they said they were going to.
According to my wife, they came, knocked on the door, and told her they were here to evaluate the air conditioning unit. My wife said they were only there for 20 minutes then left but didn't leave her any paperwork that they even came by. I called them later on and asked them what they found. They said they found that the system was unrepairable, so they were gonna do a write-up to American Home Shield, letting them know that the unit could not be fixed and recommending that they replace it. They also said it would take them a day to get that write-up over to American Home Shield. Two days went by, but I hadn't heard anything from AHS or that company, so I called the company. They said they'd already submitted that write-up to American Home Shield and that they recommended that they replace it.
I called American Home Shield, and American Home Shield’s a nightmare because no matter what number you call or what department you ask for, you get the same people from out of country. They told me they haven't received a report yet. I told them the contractor said they submitted a report yesterday. It was a day later that American Home Shield called me. I said, “They said that they filed the report.” The girl said, “We haven't received a report from them yet.” I said, “So the people that you deal with are lying to you and me. I don't feel very good about that company being reputable if they're gonna lie to you and me.”
I had some words with AHS, so they turned around and called that company. They found out that they lied to them and it took them another 24 hours before they got the report from that company. Then American Home Shield wouldn't answer me for two weeks. I was on the phone with them every day. It was in July and we were in triple digits every single day up here where I live, and I couldn't get anybody from AHS. Every time I talked to them, they were saying it was under evaluation. After three weeks, they turned around and said, “We're not going to cover your air conditioner or the ducting work that has to be replaced because it's not to code.” I said, “It was to code 30 years ago when it was put in. You can't hold me accountable for that." It was a $16,000 unit and they were only gonna give me $1,900 even though my contract says they cover heating, air conditioner, and ducting work.
I've had American Home Shield since I bought the house 20 years ago. I hadn't even moved into my house when we found out that the water heater had failed. They were right on the spot. They came out and put a new water heater in. Then two years into the house, the dishwasher took a crap. They couldn't get the new computer board for it so they said they'd put a new one in and they did that. They also repaired my ceiling fans. A year ago, my dryer went out and it was unrepairable. They said, “You can upgrade. Just send us the receipts so we can put the ones that you bought back on your warranty.” They were wonderful to work with that was why I kept renewing every year. For all the small stuff, they're perfect. But don't expect them to be there when the most expensive thing in your house breaks, even though they said they'll cover it. It was so hard. For two weeks, I couldn't get a live person on the phone.

When I call American Home Shield, they send somebody out. When I first moved in this house, the water heater broke. That was before I even got all my furniture unpacked. I called American Home Shield and they replaced the water heater so I was happy with that. I've had them for everything I've needed for all these 35 years I've been in this house.
But the last time I had to have a water heater replaced, there were so many other things that I had to do and come out of pocket to pay for. Recently, a repairman came in and fixed the little problem that I had. The little container that makes the water blue has fallen down into the toilet, so it was blocking it. It was ridiculous that I had to pay $100 for that. That was not worth $100. He said, "I'll give you a new flapper because I'm here." I was thinking about changing to another company because the rates have gone up too high. It cost me $100 just to have somebody come out here and look at a toilet that the water was running in. It used to be 30, 40 then it went up to 50. Now it's 100 and I still have to pay every month to have the service. That's gone up, too.

American Home Shield took a week to fix my sewer pipe. I had sewage leaking in my house for over a week. It wasn't pouring in because we limited our usage. But I told them what the problem was, and I had to raise heck to finally get them to get the ball rolling on my claim. Two different contractors came out, and there was an issue with who would do the work. Once they came out and did the work, it was fantastic. But it shouldn't have taken me five calls and a call to remind them I have special needs children in the house and this is sewage coming into my house before somebody decided it would be a priority.

We received a year of American Home Shield with the purchase of our home in 2016. We remodeled the whole house before we moved in and since we were buying all new appliances, we wanted to have some kind of coverage and protection. We stuck with the warranty that was provided to us and maintained that after the first year was up, but in my experience, it was never a worthwhile investment.
I had an electrical panel that was 30 years old and it overheated. It was easy enough to file the service request online and answer a couple of simple questions. It was vague, but it got me through to an electrician, which was what was necessary eventually. However, the assigned contractor, Turner Electric, wasn't gonna be able to come out for at least a week and I didn't have power. So I had two different electricians come out and they said that, over time, the breakers arc on the main buses and things just happen over time and apparently mine was too old and worn out and it melted.
Turner Electric's communication was horrible as well, and when their technician finally showed up and looked at my panel, he said, "Yep, it's melted." That was about it. When he left, he wrote a report saying that some other component attached to my electric panel was the cause and it wasn't covered. American Home Shield offered to send another contractor out, but I didn't have time to wait because I didn't have electricity in my house. I had to spend about $6,000 and pay a private contractor to come and replace my panel.

It took six days before American Home Shield could get anybody to even look at the AC when it was very hot out. We did it online, and we called them. We tried to call back to see if there was any way to get it expedited and they said no. They couldn't help us. The contractor was great once he finally got here. He was very pleasant, fast, and got it fixed. It took 30 minutes to fix the AC. So, we had to wait six days for a 30-minute repair. That is unacceptable. AHS needs to figure out more help or something else. We went with another company because of that interaction.

I had a water heater that was leaking, so I went online to make a claim about it. Someone called me and scheduled an appointment. They came out the next day, evaluated the situation, and told me I needed a new water heater. The following day, they installed the water heater. The claim was resolved in two days. I'm pleased with the people who come to do the annual furnace and AC check as well. They are really friendly and explain everything to me.
On the other hand, I didn't care for the people who handled the claims on my two appliance issues. That was a lengthy process. It took weeks to get my refrigerator and dishwasher serviced. The two technicians came the same day, but one was for the dishwasher, while the other was for the refrigerator. I still have a problem with the refrigerator as well. I'm reluctant to pay another $100, especially if the same people come back out and it still doesn't get fixed. They tried to get me to pay more to use some of their other services, and I didn't appreciate that. Also American Home Shield's price has doubled since I signed up with them. They should bring the prices back down.

I had American Home Shield before and then I came back, and I’ve been with them for a couple of years. My most recent claim was a little painful because the guys that came to my house the first times were not good. They misdiagnosed and left me in the middle of the heat with non-working air conditioning. I had to buy an air conditioning unit at Costco in the meantime. So, I was not satisfied. After several weeks, it was determined that the air conditioning unit had to be replaced. So, AHS sent MS Services. I contacted them but there were a lot of bureaucratic things that needed to happen. I was expecting that they going to replace the air conditioning unit to a certain level but MS sent me the additional charges that I would have to agree to before they could replace the unit.
I looked at the charges, and it was over $4,000. I agreed to them but I needed to talk because if we replace the air conditioning unit, I wanted to make an upgrade and it was not straightforward how to deal with that. I tried to give MS a call back and it was very difficult to contact them so it has gone for many other weeks. I contacted them last week finally, and they sent me a quote of 15,000. Their basic quote was more like 12,000 and included the replacement of the air conditioning unit and the furnace, which was why it increased because the furnace is also very old. But it's also covered with American Home Shield. Still, it seemed a lot.
I haven't checked it myself, but according to MS, if I go to Costco, that would be even more. They're using Lennox as the brand, which is well-established. I'm assuming that the way in which they are doing it is American Home Shield might get a certain price with Lennox. I understand that it's not the full price that I will be paying. But I was expecting for them to cover a little bit more. I need to do it anyway. If they are giving me a better price than Costco, then I will move forward with them. Although I’m left with this feeling that it's not covered. If I pay 30 percent, let's go with it. But this feels like it's more than that. I would have to look well into the quote and what's included.

I got American Home Shield about a year ago. I purchased a new home, and it’s a great way to protect all my appliances and have that extra peace of mind. I submit claims online and it's easy to understand. However, the subcontractors are a separate entity. I had an appointment scheduled for A6 Service, but the day that they were supposed to come by, they called really late and said that their techs weren't able to come out. I asked how come, and they said, "Well, they were sick." I said, "Okay. I understand that. Are they gonna come out tomorrow?" They said, "No. We have to reschedule for a couple weeks out again."
I said, "Well, that doesn't sound fair. I've been waiting patiently for you guys to come and fix this appliance.” Plus, when they got the parts, I had to call them to verify that. They should be doing the appointments once they know they've got the parts to fix whatever it is. That's their job. I shouldn't have to call them to set an appointment. American Home Shield won't pay for what they're supposed to pay for. An AC guy came out because my AC was freezing up and not cooling. He showed up on time, told me what it was and what he could do to fix it. He said that one of my main return lines was collapsed, and there were two other runs of duct that were collapsing and old. American Home Shield denied my claim for rodent damage and never called me back. I had to call them to get that answer. The guy that inspected it said it'd be approved that day and he'd have it all fixed on the following Tuesday, which was three days later. Three weeks later, all I got was a link asking me to review my recent service. Whenever I clicked it, it showed that I had a denial.

I've had American Home Shield for 25 years but I'm shopping for a different company because they are not covering as much as they used to. I'm most unsatisfied with the fact that if something breaks in my house and they can't fix it, I'm afraid I'm gonna get half of what my new appliances were. I have a refrigerator right now that I need to have repaired but I don't know if I wanna call and report it. I don't wanna invest in a new refrigerator and not be able to have it fixed or replaced.
If something's broken and they can't fix it, I've never had them say, "We can't replace this.” They always did a great job. But the last two years I found that the contractors that are coming out and the service that we're getting is not as good as it used to be. The price is too much as well. There are other companies out there that charge less and don't care what appliance I buy. However, the claim being settled took a very long time. I'm very upset about it. I have a Carrier Infinity, which is a higher end unit and people have to know how to work on it. It can't be any AC tech. The first company American Home Shield sent wasn't certified, so they canceled the call.
When the second company came out, they said the blower motor inside the unit was bad and it was gonna be eight weeks to get the motor. So, I kept calling in. I knew the motor was available even before then, and I didn't know what the holdup was. Apparently, the company quit doing business with American Home Shield, but nobody ever told me until I called the company back nine weeks later and they told me. I called American Home Shield, then they sent out another company, which was AG. They had it fixed within three days.
I've had American Home Shield since I bought the house 17 years ago, and I've only used them four times. It's been good except for my HVAC. They always have trouble getting out the proper service company for my AC. However, most people don't have that type of unit. For the other two appliances they fixed, I've got no issues. This company is a complete fraud. I have paid them thousands over the years for coverage for a 'home warranty.' This is a thing they offer, but do not actually provide. Today I opened a ticket for a washing machine which has steadily been growing louder and louder. After a 100.00 fee, in addition to all the fees they collect month after month, after month, it takes some days to get a contractor assigned and a 'tech' dispatched. Was this a tech? I don't think he was. I would call him an inspector, as he did absolutely nothing. Told me it is the transmission. Makes sense. Sounds like it. Go ahead and fix it. Oh, no. Must write a report and submit it to the 'warranty' company and see what they want to do. Took the day off for this.
Then I get a call from the manager at the contractor to tell me that they can't diagnose the washer at all, unless it is 'moved out to a different room' while still hooked up. They need to be able to access all sides. What? I have no ability to do that. She then said that they cannot help me at all and to call American Home Shield to dispatch someone who can do what I need. Fine. But American Home Shield won't do that. They won't do anything until they have the report from the 'tech.'
Fast forward to they have the report from the 'tech.' Which says not normal wear and tear, so not covered at all. They will not dispatch anyone. I am on my own. What makes it not normal wear and tear? How did they determine anything when they said that can't diagnose it without access to all sides? Thousands of dollars and an extra fee to do nothing. Thank you for giving me the runaround the whole day. Do they let you cancel? Not easy. But I'll be without coverage. I'm without coverage now! The 'coverage' isn't real! Try and get something repaired. Good luck. "Oh, but don't cancel, we'll send someone else for a second opinion." For another 100.00 fee. No thank you. If American Home Shield wasn't such a scam they would be a joke.

I recently purchased a home and the sellers purchased American Home Shield for the warranty. 2 weeks into living here I smelled gas. The gas company came and confirmed a gas leak. Called up Home Shield, paid $125 and got me in touch with 4th rate plumber. They came, couldn’t fix it, rescheduled for that Saturday from 2-7 pm. Never showed up. Called Home Shield at 7 pm. Home Shield said the service order was listed as completed and had no record of another appointment scheduled.
I first left a message with Nussbaumer Plumbing at 7 pm stating that we’ve been waiting from 2-7 and we have a babysitter waiting as well. They never answer the phone. Ever. Then Home Shield doesn’t have any go-to plumbers that can come short notice and said they will get back to us. But if I don’t hear from them, to call them back. I told them that’s no way of running a business if you can’t guarantee any return correspondence. They should be reaching out to me.
I explained to them that I didn’t choose them but the sellers of my house did. Obviously, they chose a cheap route of warranty and Home Shield chooses sub-par sub-contracted labor. I told Home Shield they need to be quarterbacking this service and know what’s going on. I’ve talked to Home Shield a few times now and my gas remains off for over two weeks now. Every rep states they’re going to help but nothing has happened. My gas is still off for over two weeks now, no scheduled appointments and out my $125 I paid for the service request. Absolutely disappointing, frustrating and will make sure I let anyone know who’s buying a house to pay attention to the warranty company because if it’s Home Shield, they better negotiate that right away.
We hate to hear about your most recent AHS experience. We would be glad to speak with you to address your concerns and find a possible resolution to the issues experienced.

I have 2 young children who are suffering in heat and have heat rash. Now AHS has endangered my family, forcing me to live in dangerous desert conditions. They have approved my work order but are waiting on ordering parts. They are blaming AC company and the supplier for delay. This should not be my problem--they need to figure it out as my 2 young kids suffer all day in triple-digit temps.

LIES!!! They say that your AC is covered up to $5000 but then they send out a contractor that works with/for them, they require you to pay $2800 to the contractor so that they will fix what is covered ($200 for a drain line?? 6 ft of PVC does not cost $200...even other HVAC installers were appalled by the inflation on that!) The Cash in lieu offered for a new evaporator coil and condensing unit was $1520...So for a completely new AC system (inside and out) it only costs $1520??? LIARS!!!! They say it is because they buy in bulk...When I asked what brand and model they would be installing, they said they don't order it until I agree to pay the $2800...So which is it?? Buy in bulk or did not buy it yet??? LIARS!!! They do not respond to emails! In 5 different messages I was given 5 different amounts and explanations for the same item of replacement. I wanted to share my terrible experience with American Home Shield (AHS) regarding my water heater. I’ve been a member for over 10 years, rarely filing claims, until a few weeks ago when my water heater began leaking. I called for service, but it took four days before a contractor arrived. He diagnosed the problem in under 20 seconds and informed me he would submit his report to AHS. He also warned me to expect a $500 charge, which I found odd.
A couple of days later, I received an email from AHS, confirming that I needed to pay $500 for the water heater replacement. When I called to inquire about the charge, they claimed it was for "modifications and parts." I asked for clarification, but the representative was reading from a script, making no sense at all. I then pointed out that there’s no need for modifications or parts for a simple water heater replacement, to which they had no real answer. Frustrated, I asked what the payout would be if I hired my own contractor. They told me they’d have to send an email to a supervisor, and it would take another 2-3 days to get a response. By this point, I had already waited nearly 10 days without resolution.
Two days later, they offered me a mere $300. I called AHS to get an explanation, but they kept passing me from one person to another, with everything ultimately being referred to a supervisor. I reminded them of their false advertising—the claims they make on TV that if they can’t fix it, they’ll replace it—yet they continued to offer excuses. The agent said she would contact the supervisor, but again, it would take another two days, as they could only communicate via email.
At that point, I had had enough. My family, including my elderly father, had been without a water heater for long enough. It was clear that AHS was taking advantage of my desperation. I reluctantly accepted the $300 payout just to resolve the situation, even though that, too, required another three-day wait. AHS is more concerned with its bottom line than with customer satisfaction. After paying nearly $1,000 annually for years, this is how they treat me. What’s up with that, AHS? SHAME ON YOU for cheating people!

I'd give this company a no to one star. After paying approximately $90 monthly for their services, when I needed a refrigerator repair, I was informed it would be a two month wait to get my refrigerator repaired. I called American Home Shield on August 7th and was told that it would take over a month (September 7th) for it to be serviced. I waited all day on September 7th and it was a no show. I called American Home Shield following this and now was being told that it wouldn't be until October 6th or 7th that they could service me. I ended up calling a repair service on my own and this company, as well as another company, said they won't work with AHS as AHS doesn't pay enough and they are always late in making payments. I ended up canceling my contract with American Home Shield, after about 10 phone calls to customer services and the "escalation" department. This is a terrible company.

My most recent claim was really frustrating. I had a refrigerator issue, and it took days for someone to get it fixed because there was a part on back order. Every time I tried to call in, I got nowhere and I had to keep waiting. I don't know what ended up pushing it through and getting it done, but it was a super long time. But most of the time, claims get taken care of fast. This is maybe the first one that didn't go so well.
Also, I own five rental properties and when I first got American Home Shield, I thought the pricing was really fair. It was 60 bucks a month. I get it. Prices go up. But I had plans on multiple rental properties and by the end of it, one is 117, one is 90, and the other one was at 100. Why is there so much discrepancy between the plans? And when I have three different plans, why can't they give me some sort of bundle deal? I tried talking to them about it one-time, and I got the runaround on it. I gave up and decided that when I sell these properties, I'm not gonna re-up.

Our refrigerator was down and it was gonna be six weeks before the techs could come out. We asked AHS to switch to somebody else who could come and do it quicker. And that was Sears. The claims process with AHS was fairly easy on the app. Much better than before, having a call and getting on the phone. This is our second time having American Home Shield. We had it once before when we lived in Connecticut many years ago. It's a cumbersome process sometimes and things don't always work out favorably from the standpoint of time. But it's a good thing to have. That refrigerator would have probably cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars to be repaired. But I just paid a deductible of 100 bucks. Now, I pay every month, I understand that, but still, it's a more economical way of taking care of your appliances and your home.

I don't have a receipt being I cancelled service in June of 2020. My subscription was part of my closing on my house thru Coldwell Banker Burnett in Eagan Minnesota. The real estate agent talked me into this deal and raved how well it worked for him. I bought into the sales pitch which cost me $750 for a yearly subscription plus $75 per service call. The plan was a deal between Coldwell Banker and American Home Shield for home buyers.
In the summer of 2020 the A/C unit attached to my house that I bought in 2019 was on its last legs as it was 20+ years old. The tech came out and told me that the A/C unit needed to be replaced, but Home Shield said NO. The best the tech could do was to replace the capacitor, and refill the freon about 2lbs of R-12 for $300 which Home Shield wouldn't cover. The main problem with the A/C unit was a leak in the system and blown capacitor. I was pissed and cancelled the plan which cost me the $750 that I initially paid as Home Shield wouldn't refund the difference of time left on the contract. I told my realtor that Home Shield was a joke and wished he never mentioned them as it cost me money. I had to spend $6145 for a new Lennox from Blue Ox HVAC. But, to add insult to injury is that I'm a 100% disabled veteran who served for 20 years, and feel Home Shield took advantage of a disabled veteran on a fixed income.

I've been with American Home Shield for many years, and my experience with them has been not been entirely positive. There are things I don't use them for. I've had some experiences where I had a plumber come and try to charge me for work I didn't need and was not covered. I kicked him out and had American Home Shield send somebody else who was honest and he did the right thing. I also had an air conditioning guy come and try to charge me for work I didn't need as well. I sent him home, and I no longer use American Home Shield's annual checkup. I use my regular air conditioning vendor. I had a water heater replacement emergency as well and I had to take their allowance, which was less than half of what the cost was to have the unit replaced.
I've had some more positive experiences too. I recently called American Home Shield for an air conditioning service. It was for something that was really simple that they could've made into something complicated, but the guy figured it out right away. It was just a couple of screws and I could've figured that out myself, but I'm getting tired of doing that stuff. Recently, we were having a non-specific potential issue with a cooking range that they had put in after replacing my original one. They sent a technician who was a very nice and experienced guy, but he was not very familiar with the unit. It's an obscure unit. It's not a unit people see every day. It's a dual fuel, drop-in, slide-in range with a center downdraft and all kinds of features. Eventually, they had to send another tech and the unit checked out okay, so there was no repair that had to be done.
When I subscribed to American Home Shield, my original stove was about to fail and I knew there were only two replacement models available. So I got American Home Shield. I nursed the thing along as long as I could, and finally, when a couple of parts broke and I called American Home Shield, they had to replace it. It was a $4,000 stove and they replaced it. However, they sent one guy to do the job and he didn't install at level. It prompted three other service calls when the fans were rattling because the machine was twisted. After several calls and a lot of inconvenience, I got them to finally send two guys that would come and level the machine properly. It was a process though. I happen to be a professional building consultant, so when somebody tries to feed me a lot of crap, I know. On the other hand, somebody who's not in the same position would find it a lot more difficult to manage these things.
From what I've heard from other people, I don't think the other services aren't any better. For small repairs, plumbing repairs, and miscellaneous things that people might need in the house, it's very convenient to only pay the $100, but then again, it's $100 a month. Doing the math, that's $1,200 a year plus $106 for a service call. When the home warranty company gives people $1,500 for a $4,000 water heater replacement, then maybe they're even.
People can pay for all these stuff on their own or they can pay for the subscription and use it more effectively. I have three plumbing issues I can call American Home Shield for if I want to take a morning off. It's best to save that stuff up because people might as well just pay the $100 once and have them fix three things in the house all at the same trip. It's not an emergency. For anything small (and even if something's not so small) and doesn't require specialized parts or tools, I fix it myself.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

First of all I never write reviews. My recent experience was so bad that I canceled the service I had with them for years. I paid for upgraded coverage from them that included items that are not usually covered like plumbing and ductwork. Two weeks ago, gallons of water poured into my dining room ceiling due to water back up in my furnace/AC unit. When the ceiling was opened, the ductwork was corroded and cracked, allowing the water to pour out of the system. My policy covered ductwork and says it covers breaks in the ductwork. Here is the actual language: Leaks or breaks in ductwork connected to heating and/or air conditioning system(s) including leaks or breaks in vapor barriers, plenums, dampers, damper-only controls, registers, and grills.
Well, apparently, as long as your air conditioner is blowing out cold air, they don't consider your ductwork to be broken. I spent hours on the phone with the company they sent out and with AHS customer "service". Language barriers aside, they refused to acknowledge the provision that was in their own contract. I use another warranty company for another home I own, and I have never had this issue. Not looking to sell any product, so I won't mention the name of the other company. Just stay away from AHS.

I greeted the tech outside and told him what the problem was. It took him about 15 minutes to diagnose and replace the part. So, the service itself was fine. It was just getting him out here that was very difficult. American Home Shield took five days to get somebody out here for my air conditioner. It turned out it was still pumping out some cold air. It was just sucking an enormous amount of electricity because of a worn-out or broken part. So, I wasn't completely without cooling here. AHS didn’t know that and all they knew was that I needed an air conditioner repair. To make people wait in Phoenix when it's 115 degrees outside is just not acceptable. If their techs can't get out here sooner, then they need to contract with more techs. In the summer especially, they need to get somebody out on an air conditioning call within 24 hours. There are all sorts of people that advertise on the radio that they'll do that. So, it's gotta be available.
My electricity use has dropped but it's still much higher than it was last year in terms of total kilowatt hours or the average per day. So, some of it may be the heat, some of it may just be the unit's a year older. The unit has been pumping out cold air, so I don't have any complaints about that. And the main reason why I have American Home Shield is because of the AC. I don't have a problem with their personnel although it's impossible to get a live person. Everything's done over phone menus. But be that as it may.

I've dealt with Ambient in the past. They're always communicative about my appointment time or their arrival time, and if they have to order parts. They've come out a couple of times. The first time, they had to put some coolant in it and change out a capacitor. At another time, they had to change out a different part. And then this last time, they changed out another part in the actual unit. Overall, AHS is something good to have as a backup to protect your property.

The majority of the time that I've used American Home Shield, I've been pleased. Whenever I have a claim, I call and tell them what service I need. It's easier if I can get somebody on the phone. They usually would tell me right then who would be the company that's gonna call me. What I like most is they will get somebody to service me in a very timely manner. However, if there is a company that comes that doesn't demonstrate that they know what they're doing and they will call in something that I know is not true, then I would expect American Home Shield to immediately say, “Let us send another company to confirm or not what the first company said." But they say, "You're gonna have to make another payment if they say it's not true.” We shouldn't have to because the premium’s already high enough. You gotta pay $100 for somebody to come but if they don't do the service, then you gotta pay for a new company.

When the contractor did the fix on the water that leaked on my ceiling, they cut a hole on the ceiling and didn't seal it. I ask American Home Shield if they could fix it but they said they didn't have a contractor to fix it. They just gave me $100 to fix it myself. I told them I could not buy materials to cover for that for $100. I asked for a supervisor five times but they didn't care. I had another claim for the range hood. They told me they couldn't find the part and gave me $300 to fix it myself. But the range hood I went to buy was $370 and the installation cost was $150. I had to pay out of pocket.
Many times, I had called and waited. Then they transferred me to this person and that person. They always force the customer to receive a cash offer to save the money and it takes too long to process. They don't want to pay the labor for a contractor because it costs more money for them. The money they give is less than the value in the market. They try to save money and cut off the benefits for a customer. I spent more than six hours to fight them and canceled my contract right after that. I paid American Home Shield for three years but I didn't get the service.

American Home Shield has been horrible. They sent out Big Orange Plumbing to fix a gas leak to my rental property. My tenant had to have her gas shut off, so she had it off for a couple of days. When she had the gas company come out around 9 o'clock at night, my tenant texted me and told me that when Big Orange installed the new piping, he had nicked it. So, there was a gas leak. My tenant told the gas company to go ahead and do the repair because she couldn't be without gas any longer and I didn't have any say. I know that we're supposed to call back the contractor and so on. But I had to reimburse her.
The gas company charged me money and I've been waiting for a phone call back from American Home Shield for a month and a half now. When I called them, they told me that Big Orange never reached out to them. So, that's why they never called me back. I got irritated that I needed to be the one to reach back out to them since that company wasn't calling them.
Right now, I'm still trying to see if I want to keep American Home Shield because 9 times out of 10, the companies they send out always charge me money. This was the first time in a long time I wasn't charged money, but then I was charged money because it wasn't done right. I ended up paying $125 for the service call and another $83 to have him fix it the correct way. I also had a service call when my tenant needed the dishwasher fixed. There were four attempts to fix my dishwasher and AHS was not sending anybody out who was knowledgeable.

The AC unit was replaced on June 22nd and after that, I had to have Feels Good AC & Heating come out because it was not cooling. The next time I called was because water was coming out the ceiling. I called Phil and they said I needed to call American Home Shield and do a recall. I immediately did the recall, and they came out that same day. The sheetrock had fallen out of the ceiling because the condensation line was never hooked up from the very beginning.
The service when the water was leaking was terrible. The technician went up there and had us turn the AC on and off while he fixed the problem. Then he turned around, lied and said somebody else had been up there working, and it was why the water fell. I told him I have receipts from 2022 when I changed the sheetrock in that particular room. But he put in a bad report to American Home Shield and said there was nothing wrong with my ceiling.
I came up with a solution myself by calling American Home Shield and telling them I didn't feel comfortable with those people coming back into my house. I told them to give me one or two other contractors that they use. They gave me two and I called them, but they said that they didn't do inspections or a second opinion. At that point, I didn't have a choice but to deal with Feels Good. But it wasn't until I read my contract that I found out that they were supposed to give me a second opinion and that didn't happen until a whole month later.
I've been dealing with this since July 19th, and the second opinion is coming out on Saturday. I realized American Home Shield is going to try to take the side of the contractor so make sure that whenever somebody comes to your house, that you record them because it's gonna be your word against theirs. At first, American Home Shield didn't wanna deal with this and kept telling me to call the contractor myself and handle it. I said, “I wasn't the one that called them. I'm not the person that sent them to my house. You need to intervene.”

Our experience has been mostly okay except for two incidents that we weren't happy about and we felt didn't make sense. But that was in the first year. When we moved into this house, there was an issue with the master bathtub. Both the knobs of this tub rotated all around. It didn't have a stop to tell us this is where the water will stop. So, if the water ran, we had to figure out when the water would stop.
We wanted someone from American Home Shield to get that fixed. But the contractor came and said that it was because of wear and tear that it happened and they could not cover the cost. We would have to pay out of pocket. But we started living there a month ago. We asked them that it wasn't our fault. We didn't use this tub before. It was just a month old. But AHS said that didn't matter. It was wear and tear so we had to pay.
We asked for a second opinion from another contractor through AHS and they said, "If the second opinion from the contractor also says that it is wear and tear, then we will charge you another extra plus the amount for fixing it." So we ended up paying a lot of money. We paid $85 or $75 at that time twice. We didn't have any answers to that. We didn't fight it. We didn't say anything. But we have always been cautious when we ask AHS to send a contractor to fix things in the house unless it was necessary. Other than that, we recently had some issues with our dishwasher. We called American Home Shield and they sent us the details of the contractor. Whoever came did a good job. He fixed the issue and the dishwasher is working well.
I would like to thank you for providing feedback on your most recent American Home Shield experience. We hope you continue to enjoy the overage we provide.

Can't do nothing." So, it didn't leave a good taste, but I didn't feel I got great service. It was more of, "I go to my next appointment," type of feel because not long after that, the AC stopped working again.

There have been several times in the past my wife and I called and needed someone to come out and service, whether it was plumbing or the washer, the dryer, or whatever, we had to find someone ourselves and to see if they were in with American Home Shield before they would come out. We had to do the groundwork ourselves. We didn't see eye to eye and at one point, we were to end the contract. But it has become gotten better now.
We used to do submit claims by phone, but we couldn't get any answers so she would go online. It used to be a time when almost three days before a vendor would reach out. But over the last year and a half, it has changed. It has become a lot better on the service calls. There were some people that had some bad attitude and didn't have good customer service. Now, we don't talk to anyone. It's done online. The contractors that come out have been respectful. They come in and do a good job.

My husband pays the monthly fee every month and it costs $100 for American Home Shield to come out and do whatever they do. Our washing machine sometimes messes up and the techs have to fix it. But we haven't had them out lately. We've been satisfied with everything. If we hadn't had AHS, we would have had to pay out a lot of money to have our washing machine fixed, because our house was built in the ‘60s, and it's in the kitchen. AHS is worth the price that you pay every month because if you have older appliances and they break down, if AHS can't fix it, they will give you the money so that you can get another one.

Powers & Sons came and the tech did not touch the air conditioner and just left. He said that the tech that American Home Shield sent to install my air conditioner installed it incorrectly. Nobody came after that. I called several times but now, I don't know if somebody will come or not. AHS did a good job in the past. But they’ve been giving me a hard time in the last five years. They increased their premium to $300. I’m paying so much. Three years ago, they replaced my air conditioner but after that, there was nothing. They're not helping me at all. They don’t listen and it’s not a good service. I'm going to just drop AHS.

There were two things wrong with the stove and on one of them, the part wasn’t being made anymore. So, the contractor put through the claim to replace the actual unit itself. They were great. We live in a rural area and there are very few people who come out. so, it's hard to find a good one. It took us almost a year to get our dishwasher taken care of and it's nobody's fault but it was a combination of things that made the whole process painful.
Only The Best is local and they do a lot of things. I like being able to tell American Home Shield to contact them first if they're available because they now know our place and our stuff. It's not back and forth. It’s just like the old days when you knew who your service people were. So I like that they’re able to do that. They have always been responsive. I found that out after one of their calls several years ago. So I tend to want to request them because I know that they'll get back to me and they don't live an hour and a half away and will cancel the day that they say they're coming out. I've always found them to be professional and courteous. So I would highly recommend them.
I've been with AHS many years because we used them years and years ago in a different residence. And now, it's a little bit more difficult. The people who you initially call are lovely, but they're working from a script and it's hard to get to the point. It's just what it is. But in terms of eventually responding and being good to work with, things have worked out. The intention and the ultimate customer service are good. But, especially in the last several years, it's just a more difficult process in the sense it's frustrating when you first call in on the phone tree and you have to give your name, address, and all that information. Then when you get to a real human being, they verify everything again. So it's little stuff like that that are on the annoying side.

I'm a single person and I'm fairly handy but I can't fix a lot of what would be considered easy stuff. I’ve had American Home Shield for 11 years and the rate at that time was 50 a month and I thought that was good. But the rate has more than doubled. I haven't had to use AHS that much but now that my home is getting older, I don't wanna cancel them. The past two years when I got my rate increase, I was unhappy. It was such a huge increase so, I called them. The first year, they gave me two free months, which when averaged out, turned out to be close to what my old rate was. This time, they did the same thing. So, each year, I've had an increase but not quite as much as it initially looked like. I'm retired and on a fixed income and I don't call on them very often. So, I'm glad they're willing to work with me.
My daughter still has AHS but when the rate goes up, they might find somebody else. I started because of her with them and I'm a person who will stick with them more because I'm gonna need them. I know the system, except I don't understand how it works. I wish I understood more and that they had more room for comments when I submitted the service request. I did the service request online and I might have hit “Clogged drains” but you have no place to add a comment or a request. You just have to choose.
I'm usually not happy with Murray's. I made a note not to use them again but you don't have many options. There's a difference between incompetence and just not having good customer service. The first group was incompetent. Two calls ago I had another problem with the faucet upstairs and that was never fixed correctly. The guy didn't know what he was doing and he had to come back twice. It was a year ago but the faucet has never worked properly since. This time, the guy knew what he was doing. He unclogged the sink and installed two new handle vanity faucets. It was a cheap vanity. I would recommend AHS because I don’t have to hunt down a person for the most part. It’s hard to schedule people. But I wish I understood more about how they dealt with their vendors. Some of the vendors are very good about calling. Murray's not one of them. But the refrigerator guys are good. They call ahead of time and find out what's wrong.

We've had AHS for several years and the service has been going down while the prices keep going up ever since they were bought out by FrontDoor. Customer service has been outsourced to another country and it's frequently impossible to understand anyone that you speak with when you have a problem. The most recent incident is still ongoing. I put in a service request for my refrigerator that was not cooling on Aug. 18 and the technician was scheduled to come out Aug. 20 between 8-5. When he arrived he stated that we would need parts, ordered them and then stated that there would be no opening for the repair until Sept. 4. I received a phone call the morning of Sept. 4 stating that the technician would not be able to come until Sept. 18. A month without a refrigerator!
Upon calling AHS I was told that there was nothing they could do and no they would not compensate me for any spoiled food. I asked if I could hire someone local to do the repairs since I already had the parts and have them compensate me for the labor and was told that I couldn't do that. There is no way to register a complaint with the company, they make it impossible to contact anyone but the service or sales department. There is no accountability with this company and I would highly recommend NOT doing business with them.

In the beginning of summer when it was crazy hot, I had an issue with my air conditioning. I remember I had to spend a night in a hotel. It was that bad. I called AHS and JW Ultra Air Heating & Cooling came out. I was told that I needed to replace the unit and they reached out to AHS. They seemed to have done a good job as far as I can tell.
But I always have issues when I call in and before I can even talk to anybody, they want me to pay upfront. That bothers me because I would like to be able to talk to a person and tell them what's going on before I'm charged a fee. Also, I had to talk to one of their supervisors and we went back and forth but she tried to make good on that particular issue. Beyond that, I am pleased that American Home Shield does a payout when they can't repair it, although I wish it was a little bit higher.

I had to get my refrigerator repaired and it that worked out pretty good with AHS. But I have another claim and I'm not satisfied with it because the contractor said that they got can't get me until the 20th of September. Whether or not AHS has a whole lot of personnel working for my particular appliance, I'm not sure. But I was told there were no more services available, other than that particular company that they were working with. So I have to wait out this particular contract until they can get to me a space available or whenever they got something open. But so far, I would not be able to recommend anybody to AHS if they need a job done in a hurry. Also, on average, their price is a little bit too high.

Our AC was blowing hot air and it would shut off. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and that part was easy. But when the techs from Air Magic came out, they did all these different things. And it was over the summer when it was 118 outside. First, they said it was the batteries in our thermostat. Then they came out and changed all these things. But none of them worked.
Finally, a guy came out and he said something about the electrical work. So, an electrician came to fix something for him. Then he said it was our condenser and they wanted to charge a couple of grand. They were going to charge that to American Home Shield but we had to pay 900 of it, plus the Freon. But the electrician said that it was not the condenser and that the unit needed a new motor. They said it was going to be another two weeks to get the part. At this time we've been out of air for weeks. We live in Lake Havasu and we were dying.
The electrician was going to get the part for the Air Magic guy but he didn't have it. He said that if the tech needed to do the work, because it was under American Home Shield, he would get the part for him and he could put it in. The Air Magic tech said, okay but then he had another call. He was supposed to come back but he never came back. We then called another air conditioning company, someone who the electrician knew, and that company changed it for us. Then we sent the bill to American Home Shield and we told them that the people they called never fixed the AC. It was a terrible experience.
But American Home Shield did okay with our claim on a washer that went out once, and a toilet. On the claim for our swamp cooler, we had to wait over a year and a half to have it completed and that was a nightmare. But we had an AC, so we were okay without the swamp cooler. We've now canceled our contract with AHS but they still haven't got back with us, because we asked them if they could pay the AC company and the electrician that we had to pay. We sent them those bills and we still haven't heard anything. I would tell my friends to find another company. But my family members don't have to be told. They've seen what happened.
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Our team would be glad to speak with you and assist. Please message us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com.

I've had Express come multiple times to my house to look at my air conditioner. But this particular time, there were two of them that came. My unit’s on the roof and he automatically did not want to go up on the roof to look at it. They came the week before. I've had them come many times and I haven't had an issue. He didn't even wanna take a look at it on the roof, so I requested to have someone else come out. They changed from Express to another company. That company came out and I didn't have an issue at all. I was fine.
However, I have to call them right now for the same air conditioning unit. I need them to look at it again. Every time I call, it doesn't matter how long it is, I have to pay another fee for the same thing. I've been paying this $125 fee every time, and I've had to get the same air conditioning unit regardless if it's to come back out and look at it again. I gotta pay another service fee. I'm satisfied with AHS except when it comes to air conditioner or heating issues. It's not worth it if you're doing it for that. If you have small appliances and other things, then it's beneficial.
We appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

When the techs come out, they're good. But usually, when AHS sends out a vendor, nobody contacts you. And they'll give you a date but nobody will call and tell you when they're coming, or they'll say it was delayed, but they don't let you know what's going on with them. That was the last problem I had with them about the air conditioning.
I had to get a new air conditioning unit they told me the date that the techs were coming. We waited but nobody showed up and nobody called. So I had to be on the telephone calling back and forth to try to find out what was going on. I understand that things happen, but communication is the best policy for anything. My father always said, "If you do something with somebody and you can't do it, you let them know what's going on and that will ease the person's mind." There is no excuse now. It's not like we live in 1940s where you got to send a pigeon. All you got to do is pick up the telephone. When the techs finally came out, they put a whole new unit in. I had to go through PowerPay to get it.
Other than that, I've been with AHS since 2009 and it's been great because at that time, my husband was in the military and I didn't have to worry about running around trying to find somebody to fix things. My cousin told me about American Home Shield and gave me the number. I called them and it was great for me for being a woman alone that I didn't have to go looking in the Yellow Pages and trying to find somebody. All I had to do was call American Home Shield to come out and fix whatever problem I was having. And I suggest it to all single women. That way, you don't have to worry about getting a stranger into your home.
With AHS, you got to pay to be a member and then you got to pay that vendor fee. And their price keeps going up. When I joined AHS, the price was $50 and now, it's almost $150. Then on top of that, the service call is $100. So, that's $250 right there that you spent. And that's what deters a lot of people. But I got involved for security reasons.

For my recent claim with AHS, they replaced a commode for me and it went well. They had to take my old one out. They replaced it with a new one because it was unfixable, they said. The claim process was good. It was easy to do, either checking off the phone or calling in and talking to an operator. It was also easy to get everything taken care of.
The times that I've used AHS, I've got a call back from whoever was gonna do the repair for me on the same day. If not, the next day. If it was on a weekend, it might have taken a little longer. The techs have always left the job and cleaned up, at least as good as it was. Sometimes, it may be better. They always picked up after themselves and took away anything that they replaced. I didn't have to worry about disposing of it. However, I was a little disappointed because when the new contract came up, the rate went up. It used to be $75 several years ago and it went up to $100. Now, it’s $125 a month. In addition to that, they raised my fee, whenever I call in to get it taken care of from 75 to 100. I was a little bit surprised at how fast that price increased.

I am satisfied with American Home Shield, but I was not satisfied with the last claim that I had because of the lengthy time. It was two weeks that I was out of hot water when the contractor told me that they had everything I needed to take care of it at that time. I just had no communication with them. They didn't contact me one way or another. It was sent in emails or messenger. I never really talked per se to somebody unless I called them. Then they would talk to me. But the techs who came out were wonderful. They assessed the problem and got me what I needed. But I still had to wait two weeks for the claim to go through. American Home Shield has been fabulous, and we're happy customers. I usually submit service requests online, and I always know I'm gonna allow 24 hours, but usually it doesn't take that long. They sent out Allen Appliance, and they were excellent. The technician was knowledgeable, and he showed up on time. We just couldn't get our refrigerator fixed. He tried a couple of times. It was something to do with a circuit board, and the result was we ended up getting a new refrigerator. We are still awaiting the payment, but I believe it's in the mail.
We had American Home Shield on our home we owned in Plano, and then this home we're in now, which has been here since 2000. We've been customers for a long time, and the home warranty is affordable. I recommend them all the time to people I know because they've helped us with ACs as well as our refrigerator, dishwasher, and plumbing. They're our first call and we appreciate the service. I'm not happy with American Home Shield. They just do a band-aid fix. I had to have someone come back out within five weeks for the same problem after one of the other persons was done. There is a problem with our AC system, and I had three different companies come out. They all said something else was different. The first two companies were good, but the last one was not. The last company wanted to charge me $800 out of pocket. American Home Shield is good if it's a simple fix, but it's not if it's a big fix.

I hate American Home Shield. It's been terrible. The only reason I've kept it is because it's an insurance policy in case my air conditioner dies out on me. Most of the vendors that they send are not good. It takes a long time to get people there and to show up. The callbacks are inconsistent. I've had a poor experience with them. I plan on canceling in the next six months.
I live in Houston, Texas. Air conditioning is important and it's expensive. I had one air conditioning unit go out at one point and the insurance covered it. So, it was nice that that happened. It's just they usually have low-quality people come in. I had a fridge that I called them out three times to fix and paid the 100 bucks three times, and they didn't fix it. They said, "It was this," and then it wasn't that. Itt was the same thing with my stove.

American Home Shield has been absolutely horrendous. I had an air conditioner go bad, and they were supposed to assign a contractor in 48 hours. Here, it's 100 degrees on the third floor, and American Home Shield tried eight different contractors, but none of them would come do the job. I'll call and I’d go back to them, and they’d say, “Oh, well, our dispatch team will work on it.” This has gone on for two weeks, and they still have not determined an authorization to approve, replace or do anything. They're impossible.
American Home Shield has contractors that they don't pay enough and they don't want to do the job. They know my unit is 30 some years old, and it probably needs to be replaced. It can't be repaired. The contractors have to provide their insurance for my building. It's a law there, and these guys don't wanna be responsible for their work. They don't wanna do the things that American Home Shield tells them to do because then they're gonna be responsible for damaging the equipment, so they just don't wanna do the work. I have two other contracts with AHS and they did the same thing to me when I had water heater repair requests.
Anything that's over what I pay in premiums, American Home Shield wants to make my life miserable. It wasn't always this way though. I was with a predecessor company of theirs called HSA that they purchased about six years ago. I've had them at least 25 years on the various properties, and it's really gone to crap. The customer support is awful too. It's overseas, and they lie, lie, lie. “Oh, we'll get back to you in 48 hours.” “We'll call.” “I promise to call you.” It's all, always, lies.

The contractors are doing the best that they can do. Every time I have a contractor come out, they basically say, "Here's our recommendations. We'll give it back to American Home Shield." American Home Shield will then say, "Well, we're not gonna try to replace, we're gonna repair." I have to go through the repair process a number of times when the technicians that they send out say, "Hey, this needs to be replaced." American Home Shield provides a good service, but when it comes time to really have it and it goes into effect, they're putting me through hoops that aren't necessary.
When Royal Flush came out, they made the repair and put in a new compressor. However, the unit still wasn't cooling and eventually, the compressor is still gonna go out again 'cause I had somebody else look at it. I travel for work and when I called in, it was after the 30 days. The frontline personnel said, "No, you gotta pay another 100 bucks to have Royal Flush come back out." I had to escalate that to the supervisor, and even then, the supervisor in the beginning said, "No, we can't do it." Finally, after threatening to leave and some persuasion, which it was only 30 to 45 days out, they decided to waive the $100 service fee to start another claim. I'm still having the issues with the AC unit and don't feel like it's doing what it is supposed to do. The unit is still not cooling as I would have it to.
I pay American Home Shield religiously on a monthly basis, about 50 to 100 bucks. I do my part by paying the premium, but when it's time for service, it's like they have all these objections and nos, and that doesn't feel good. This last instance, I didn't call them within the 30 days and they were gonna hold tight to the contract. What if I paid them in 45 days? They wouldn't like that. I was just outside the 30 days of the unit not functioning properly, but now they want another 100 bucks out of me. It makes me feel like they don't value me as a customer, that they just want my money.

We've been really happy with American Home Shield. We bought our house in 2019 and have still kept our subscription with them. We submit claims online and it's very easy. Every single service person they sent has also been fantastic, and our appliances perform better than normal. We have a really old washer and dryer that we've had to have serviced two times and it's still working. When I was nine months pregnant in 2022, our AC broke in the summer and they were able to get someone out there really quickly and they were able to fix it the same day. Recently, our air conditioning unit had an issue, and they had a guy come and fix it really quickly as well. It was nothing too serious. He just needed to adjust some settings. He was great.
Every time I think about canceling American Home Shield because I think, "I don't need it anymore," something major breaks at my house, whether it be the AC or something that's gonna be a lot of money, then I feel like it pays for itself. For example, the AC breakage would have cost me out of pocket $1,000 and it was only the $100 service fee plus whatever I pay monthly. We're first-time home buyers, and for us, AHS takes off the stress of anything major happening with our appliances, AC, water, etc. American Home Shield is pricey, but then again, it cuts the cost, especially if someone's buying an older home.

Without going into the details, my first claims were for my refrigerator. It's working now. Ended up having to pay out of my own pocket. Good model for the business. Bad for people trying to take care families and babies.

I have two properties in Chandler, Arizona and they both had leak issues. I did the claims online with Home Shield, and navigating the site was very good. They sent AM PM Plumbing to work on both of the properties, and they were okay, but for one of them, the communication was not that great. When they went supposedly and inspected, they told me that they were gonna just do something little and they ripped half of the kitchen and they said they had to. It was a little messy and they didn't tell me what they were doing before they did it. Besides that, American Home Shield is quick at taking care of something that they have to take care of. They're reliable, and I like that.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.
Sincerely,
Mariah

I have been thoroughly satisfied with the service that I've received. The only thing is American Home Shield is a little pricey. Other than that, it's all good. When I was having an issue with my washing machine, I contacted them by phone and the customer service was very good. The repair people they sent had to order parts and come back again, then they replaced the part for me. Now, my washer is working wonderfully.

I've been satisfied with everything American Home Shield did. They fixed my air conditioner and my garbage disposal. They also sent somebody out and fixed my air conditioning ducts. I put in a new sprinkler system with their referral as well.

American Home Shield is a little pricey, but they get things done. I've been with them for five years. I submitted a service request online, and the platform could be a little clearer. Besides that, they did well.
