Last year, I had an issue with my dryer where it was not heating. The contractor came out and figured out that it was a switch that had overheated, and it rectified the situation. About a month ago, the same issue returned. I submitted the claim online and then subsequently, I called over the phone. I thought it would be quicker for me to just call in and customer service was very helpful in helping me process that. I paid my deductible, the technician came out and took care of it. He was great. A week later, the same issue again so this time, I made sure before they came out, I looked through some things myself and made sure there was no extra lint or anything in it.
The technician came out and double-checked some other issues in there as well and replaced the thermostat and some other coupling. He got it running that day. I did three loads past that weekend and it did not heat at all. So, it was the same issue again. They came back out and made sure the issue was not what they had replaced and they tested everything again. It just wasn't working. They were very diligent in trying to figure out the problem, but the parts didn't exist and they thought it was going to cost more to try and replace the parts. They couldn't find the other parts as well so, it had to be replaced. I had a good run with it. We had a home warranty before, but we have not had service like this. AHS takes care of their people and I'd recommend them.

I got AHS when I bought the house at the end of December. After the oven was installed it was not put in the properly. The floor was not based right and the gas oven was not lying flat. I requested service from American Home Shield online and the response was super fast. Then the problem was taken care of very quickly. The contractor they sent came to the house and he finished in no time at all so I was very happy. And he came when he said he was coming. I had a good experience.

The air conditioner was not running after we had hurricane Harvey. We filed the claim online and AHS gave us a company out of Dallas which was five hours away. I called back and told them that they gave us the wrong company. Then they gave us a company out of Port Arthur and the contractor who came, Romeo, replaced the part in the AC. He was a nice guy.

I had a stoppage in my bathroom, in the commode and the shower so I called American Home Shield first thing in the morning. The technician came out the next day and he was very good. He went over things with me when he was finished, told me what happened and what he did. Since then, the performance has been going well. Having a warranty is very valuable and I would recommend American Home Shield highly to a friend or a family member. I don’t have anyone to fix things and so, it's economical and very easy to get things handled.

I put in a request for service with American Home Shield over the website, tell them what's not working, then I very quickly get an email saying that they have contacted this particular company to do the service and that they should be calling me within a period of time. But that I can call them and they provide the contractor's number. One time, I was having some work done in the kitchen and I found out that our floor drain wasn’t draining properly. The contractor came out really quickly and cleared the drain for us.
I've been really happy with the plumber that has been assigned to my area. I've hired him to do work for me for things that are not covered under American Home Shield. Also, the sewer drain cleaner people were really super nice and responsive. In January, I had a furnace company come out and I was happy with them too. My only concern is that I've had a couple of issues where they had three days to turn around a request for service. If it's the dryer, I can live without it for three days because I can run next door to my neighbors. But in the middle of January, if my furnace is not working and it's 30 below zero, three days is too long.
Other than that, I've been absolutely fine with AHS. I had an urgent request the other day and they thought they were going to switch providers for us because the one that they had assigned didn’t think he would be able to fit us in. But as it turned out, he was able to and he came the same day. If you're looking for a home warranty company, definitely check AHS out. They cover a lot of things and it's $75 a pop for each time somebody comes out plus the $50 every month. So, some years you're gonna come out ahead and some years you're not. It’s like insurance.

The problem with American Home Shield is when the service people come out, depending on the company they use, sometimes I find that I would have liked somebody else that might have done a better and more thorough job. Sometimes, the contractors are not as thorough. My last claim was for the washing machine and dryer and it was one of those things that the tech couldn't quite figure out what was going on. The tech was gonna call me back to see if AHS would cover the repair but I never got a callback and I never called. Right now, the machine is working better though.
Also, under all circumstances no matter what, AHS will push for a repair until the end of everything trying not to replace. I understand that but sometimes it makes the homeowner go through a lot before we actually don't have to worry about this problem re-occurring. I've actually had AHS before in another home and I've had them on this home and right now, I am deciding whether or not I will continue with AHS. A home warranty has got its good points and it’s not a terrible thing. It just depends on how lucky or unlucky you are in the people that the company sends. It's always valuable to have a warranty but you have to weigh whether the price you pay for it is worth it.

To begin with, the only thing that I requested from American Home Shield was that someone come out to fix the holes that were in the ceiling that were there from the three service calls that the contractor had come out to do before. But the lady rep made me make a request for another service call because it had been more than 60 days since the contractor came out, and I didn't feel that was necessary.
I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. This was the third or fourth time that the contractor would come out for the same issue and I was upset because the lady rep was saying that I would have to pay for this claim again. The contractor came out to check on two of my bathrooms that were leaking. He told me that one of them needed to be caulked around the faucet, which he said he couldn't do. He also said that the shower pan in the master bathroom was failing, but we had to have someone else determine if the shower pan fit and he didn't do this as well, so he couldn't confirm if that was even the problem. Actually, nothing was done to get my issues resolved. The contractor was fine, but I didn't feel that he did what he was really supposed to do. I had to pay $75 for the contractor to come out and not do anything. I'd tell people to look at other home warranty providers and get another quote from them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a plumber to come out. But my overall experience with them was not very good. My wife pays American Home Shield $70 a month and although we were supposed to have someone service us, it took them 24 hours to respond to us. It took awhile to get somebody to come out and we had no plumbing for 24 hours. We had to call them back and then they got us with a plumber. But once the plumber came out, he was fine and very professional, and he did a very good job. Everything has been operating as it should and has been working fine ever since.
However, I would tell my friends to save their money, depending on how old most of their appliances are. I don’t realistically think the American Home Shield warranty pays off if all your stuff is relatively new and works fine. Unlike an auto insurance that's needed, this one is definitely an insurance that’s not needed, but this is for when you'd rather pay somebody to come out to your house than make a simple fix yourself. It's for people who don’t know how to upkeep their own home. I had a plumbing issue that required a snake, so I needed the warranty, but most plumbing issues don’t require a snake and can usually be fixed with a pipe and a fitting wrench.
I understand your concerns with the coverage your warranty has provided and the guidelines of a contractor contacting you within 24-48 hours. I'd be glad to speak with you and resolve the concerns.

My Amana washing machine wasn't going to the cycles like it was supposed to. American Home Shield was very helpful and they sent me an email to verify what time the technician would be coming and everything worked out just like I wanted. Two of the supports were broken and the tech fixed all four supports which was wonderful because it would just be a matter of time before the other two would break. I was very happy with the technician who came out. I couldn't believe how young he was but he knew exactly what was wrong. He called and found out that the part was available and came back the next day. He was punctual, very polite, knowledgeable and efficient too.
We just sold another home in Ohio and we were thrilled to know it was with American Home Warranty and we were more than happy to give our business to them. Also, my sister purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona and I found out she has the same warranty company but in a different state. They had a problem with the pool pump and she was also happy with the service.

We had problems with both of our toilets in this home that we bought recently. This first happened probably two months ago and American Home Shield always had someone there promptly so we were satisfied with the timing. The first couple of times that we called them they sent someone out who could get it working again but then it would just be days before the problem happened again. The first guys that came did what plumbers normally do in such situations and we were left to think that there’s something wrong with the toilets or otherwise they wouldn’t keep stopping up again so quickly.
The last time, the company sent out a guy named Jeremy who clearly has more experience and has been with the company more often. He apologized that it hadn’t been fixed to our satisfaction the first time that’s why he was back and he fixed it. He diagnosed that there was likely a buildup of minerals in the pipes from the hard water and that would’ve likely been obstructing the pathway. And so he got some stuff we can buy at Home Depot and showed us how to use it to break up that deposit and advised us to use it several times. Then he showed us how to do it and he did it for the first time. That seemed to have solved the problem, so we’re very satisfied with the outcome. The house is three years old and Jeremy said that by then, it can begin to make the toilet a continuing problem unless we get rid of that mineral deposit.
These particular toilets do not have a large capacity as many dumps these days as far as the volume of water. They’re designed that way and it may be good for the environment but it’s not as good for working so we know that that’s part of the deal. Having a warranty is essential at least in the first year or so of having a new home or having a home that’s new to you. And so in this case we would’ve had to get a professional to help us. American Home Shield helped us out when we weren’t sure what we were dealing with and how much we would possibly have to spend to get it fixed.

My microwave broke. Submitting the claim online to AHS was fine, the only thing I had problems with was getting them on the phone. I was literally on hold on the phone with American Home Shield for an hour and a half. But other than that, it was fine. Also, when my husband stayed home for the contractor and each time those guys came, they were gentlemen and professional. They were wonderful and they didn’t make a mess. The woman that works at that office and does the scheduling for them was excellent too. Customer service was great. The contractor replaced my microwave, and everything went well.
However, the delivery service from Sears sucked. Sears was awful. They called me the morning of, I went to answer the phone and the rep hung up. He spoke Greek, not English. I called them back, but he never answered my phone. Sears delivered the microwave, but they never looked at it and it had a dent in it. So, I had to reschedule the appointment with American Home Shield and Sears had to come back. But I would tell a friend or family member to definitely get American Home Shield. My sister has it and she also has had nothing but good experiences with the contractors.

The furnace start did not work, so I needed somebody to look at it. The process of submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very easy and simpler than I imagined. I did it on the website and said I needed a professional. Somebody then called me up almost 30 seconds after, where the contractor and I had an excellent communication. However, the contractor was busy, so I hoped that the response was quicker because it was cold and we did not have a furnace. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased with the experience and the agency that came out. They took care of the issue and probably saved some money in the process. The furnace got repaired but part of the repair required changing out some asbestos-laden. It wasn’t the whole ductwork, it was the flue pipe. Now, the furnace is perfectly working and everything is fine.

Our heater stopped working and we haven't had any heat for a few weeks. I scheduled with AHS for the initial service person online, and the time between submitting the claim to someone reaching out to us was pretty quick. I put in the claim, they called me and then we set up an appointment for the guy to come out to do the initial thing. They've been keeping in touch. We're just waiting for the furnace to be in stock and get it shipped so the contractor could come and install it. We're really happy with American Home Shield and we're glad we have them. We just call them, they set us up with somebody and it gets taken care of. The one time we ever questioned someone that they sent out, they sent somebody else and it was taken care of. I have my mother trying to get on with them too.

We have a remote controlled fan in our main family room where we pretty much spend most of our time and it just stopped working. Its light does not work and it doesn’t move anything. The guy from A1 Quality that American Home Shield sent looked at it and he realized what the problem was. There was a certain part that he had to order specifically because of the fact that the fan was remote controlled. We did not have a drop string to pull it and it worked solely off the remote.
He said it will take about seven days for the part to come in and they would call and reschedule an appointment to come out and finish repairing it. We just have not heard back from them yet. We are still waiting for them to get the part. Luckily, it has not been too hot but it’s supposed to warm up this week. So we are hoping that the fan gets repaired so that we can utilize it. Nevertheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. They have always been pretty prompt in returning our calls and in setting up schedules for us to work with whatever vendor they assign.

American Home Shield fixed my washer, but a few times after I used it, it started acting up. I called AHS and they sent somebody out. The technician came out today to fix the transmission. He was very nice and knew what he was doing. I was standing back when he was running through the different cycles. When I was washing my clothes, when it was spinning, it kept a really loud noise in it and it shook everything. So he went through some cycles and said he found what it was doing. However, he can't fix it. He said he had to put in a claim today and get the part to fix my washer. Nevertheless, it was a good experience. So far, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. For those who got a house with different appliances and they start breaking down, it would be a good idea to get AHS. It seemed very valuable.

I had AHS replace the furnace in our house in ski country. I submitted the claim online and it was fine, but the overall processing of the whole thing became a scary thing. The contractor came within two days and he verified that the unit needs to be replaced. One of the things that AHS does is they won't let the local furnace guy go get a furnace locally and that is a problem. The contractor insisted on shipping one from a national distribution center, which took three days to get to them. Until the contractor has it, he can't set a schedule to replace the unit. It took five days and we had no heat. They need to allow the local vendor to get a furnace anywhere. I'm sure it costs more to do that, but they're too oriented toward saving those two hundred dollars. It's about being timely.
Also, the unit they gave me takes 14 hours to heat my house up from 50 to 70, which I really did not expect. It's a vacation home so we're not always there and 50 to 70 is only 20 degrees, but 14 hours is a lot. I have been meaning to go under the house and get the model number because I think they might have shrunk the size of the furnace and put it in a smaller one. Overall, AHS was effective but never timely. If you ever care about having something work again quickly, you are in trouble. If the toilet goes down, and you have three toilets, that is not a big deal. But if your only furnace is down, that is important.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Our shower valve was done by two plumbing companies a long time ago but it was still leaking so I complained. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and their claims rep was great and very helpful. Up To Code was sent and arrived after three days but when they called American Home Shield, the plumber said that it's not covered by insurance. American Home Shield sent another one for a second opinion and it was finally resolved. Everything's good right now, except for my kitchen sink. The kitchen sink leaking down on the cabinet is the main thing I was complaining about and the others were just secondary. However, they were saying it's not covered again so I have to look for somebody who's going to fix it. I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a leak in the plumbing under my house. I noticed it when I was going barefoot. When I walked back into my office and over to where my computer is, I stepped down and the rug was wet. I started feeling around the area where a couple of years ago, there was a leak under there in the same place. I called AHS back then and the contractor came out. They went under the house and did something and stopped the leak. But these last two times when the contractor came out, they said there was no leak. He said that the water was running off the roof down the side of the house into the patio door and that it wasn’t necessary for him to go under the house on both times. He left, and I got an email from AHS telling me that they were closing the claim.
American Home Shield is a terrible insurance company. After what they did with my stove, I don’t think I'd recommend them to anybody. The only reason I haven't canceled them and gone with somebody else is that when I talk to other people about their experience with home insurance companies, they aren't any better than AHS. So, why would I trade one terrible insurance company for another one? I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield but I would rather not go into anything else.
I understand your concerns with the plumbing leak that has been repaired and the issue of where the leak is coming from. I would be glad to follow up with you to ensure that everything has been repaired.

American Home Shield is usually prompt in having assignments. They have called me and responded to any issues or whatever case there have been. But there was this one particular contractor I had an issue with. When my refrigerator stopped being cold, AHS hooked me up with the contractor who was rather abrupt. I did an honest after-service survey and mentioned that although the contractor fixed the fridge, he didn't call to make an appointment and just showed up a half hour after I called and he didn't clean up after himself. Then he called me after he saw that survey and said, "Now, you're with me on the phone for 15 minutes." So, I won't be using that particular contractor anymore.
That was the second time that the contractor had been out. There were similar issues with that contractor a couple of years earlier when the seal of the refrigerator door needed replacing and at that point, I asked AHS not to send that contractor back out. Unfortunately, they still did and I gave the benefit of the doubt when I saw who was assigned again, but it didn't work out this time, either. Other than that, I haven't had an issue with American Home Shield. They are very accessible online and over the phone and very easy to use. I’ve had some other companies come out and I was not impressed. But this one was really good. He was very thorough. Having a warranty is very valuable and since I’ve had American Home Shield, I’ve been very pleased. They give me the peace of mind that when things break down in our home, we can at least get somebody out to look at it and explain what’s going on. I’ve purchased a brand new home before and I have an old home. The brand new home, I have peace of mind that it was covered under warranty. I had 10 years to replace or repair anything that went wrong inside the house. And I feel the safe and secure too for my old home. People buying older homes may buy somebody else’s problems but if they have that home warranty, they have the security that it’s going to be taken care of.

I have one claim with American Home Shield that has been on-going for a year and it has been horrifying. They have this company that they're using which is a horrible company. My air-conditioning unit was leaking last May and AHS had the company come out. This company has a lot of turnover with their employees because each person that came wasn't able to fix it. One guy came and said that he fixed it. Then it started leaking literally a couple of hours later. Someone else came who tried to fix it and it was leaking again. Finally, the last guy that came was somebody who has his own air conditioning company but works for this company sometimes said that I needed a whole new compressor and a drip thing. So, the company tried to tell American Home Shield that I owe them money because it was too hard to get to my unit and that they were going have to spend quite a bit of time doing it.
I called American Home Shield and they said that it wasn’t true. So, American Home Shield called and had a big fight with them about it. I finally got to an AHS gal that was willing to help me and she was fantastic! She really fought for me. AHS was able to get the price down but I still had to pay $400 to the plumbing company that came and they still haven't even fixed it. The company that AHS works with for plumbing and air condition issues where I live in Connecticut is only one company. I told AHS that I didn’t want the same company and they said that this is the only company that they work with. This company had to order a special part and finally, in January, they put it in but they couldn't put any liquid in to see if it would run correctly because it was too cold.
It has just been a nightmare. I literally had to talk to five different people from AHS and every time I would call, I was on hold for more than an hour. Now my house is sold. We're closing on April 9th. So I have to have another air conditioning company come in to just take care of the issue because I can't wait for AHS’ company to come and fix it. I actually just renewed with America Home Shield and I'm gonna cancel it. I called to find out about this claim that’s still open and they said that my membership has expired. It told them that I never got a notice and I've always paid every year and I've had it for five years. And they asked if I wanted to renew and that if so, I’m gonna have to pay a certain amount. So, I ended up renewing it because I didn't know what was gonna happen with this air conditioning. I'm really not happy.

The next day, we received a call from the appliance repair company scheduling a time to come out. They did everything right and they were here when they said they would be. They replaced one part and it worked for a couple of days and went out again. And because it had only been a couple of days, we called back and they used the same claim. They came out and replaced a different part and it's working fine. I recommend American Home Shield all the time to people. I'm really surprised that so much is covered.

I put in two claims, one was for plumbing and the other one was for my HVAC system. I called American Home Shield and the lady I talked to was very pleasant. However, she didn't know if something was covered and that was something that was a little bit disturbing. She told me, "We can send somebody out but every claim or every area got a charge." I told her to not send anybody out for me to spend $75 if she doesn't know if it's covered or not. I wasn't pleased with that.
The guy they sent out for the plumbing was very pleasant but it wasn't the best experience. It seemed like he was reluctant to do anything. But he did a great job once he started and he was able to fix the clog in my bathtub. Then the guy who came out for the HVAC wasn't so thrilled about being there. We thought we smelled gas coming from the gas furnace and he just told me that he couldn't find anything and left.

I had a great experience with American Home Shield the last time but I've been having the old issue with my AC for a year and a half now. They've been coming back several times doing the same thing but I can’t keep paying a person to come out for just Freon. Right after three months, it would break down again with the same issue and they would come back. I realized that they wait until it runs out. They know how long it’s going to last. They didn't fix it like they were supposed to the first time. One time, a contractor also called on my house even though they did not call me. I still had to pay a fee and I was disappointed about that but it was fine. That aside, the contractors sent out by American Home Shield were good.

I have a double oven for which I filed the claim on February 19th and it's been going back and forth. Jones Family Appliance Company was blaming American Home Shield and American Home Shield was blaming Jones Family Appliance. I received a voicemail a couple of days ago finally coming to the conclusion that they have to replace the oven. But I still haven't heard anything about it and that's the thing that I'm most upset about. It will probably be at least two months by the time something even gets discussed, which is ridiculous.
The first claim was the oven, then I clicked the stovetop and the hood. The same company, Jones Family, came out for the stovetop and the tech was shocked that American Home Shield had not contacted me yet about the oven. He had told them what part he needed the minute he left my house. He said, "They're going to throw me under the bus." And when I called American Home Shield, they did throw him under the bus.
I also told him about my dishwasher, which is a Fisher & Paykel. Some little part on the inside that turns the stuff around needs to be replaced and he said he has it in his truck. But Appliance Doctor was the one that came out for that. He was nice but I would have to wait. So I wish I had gotten Jones Family Appliance for the dishwasher and not for the stovetop because he said he could've done it the same day and just switched to that. On the other hand, Appliance Doctor said that the warranty company needs to order the piece because as soon as it's more than $15, they won't let them do it. I guess American Home Shield gets a certain deal on the price. So I've had to wait over two weeks for the dishwasher to work. I've just had a horrible experience with everything.
The vendors coming out are very professional and nice. Everybody has said American Home Shield is the best but it's just difficult. It was compared to health insurance, which I understand. The insurance company doesn't want to pay for anything because they're trying to keep their profits up. Apparently, the house my husband and I bought that has all Fisher & Paykel appliances, which are high-end and a pain in the ass. It's not Whirlpool and stuff like that would've probably made my experience much easier.
The times that I called American Home Shield, the first rep said that it was on the vendor, not them. The second guy was very nice. He went over everything and told me that it was not normal. But this is my first experience with a warranty company and I don't know if it's normal. Also, I did not realize that I could pay one $75 fee and click all four of the oven, the dishwasher, the stovetop and the hood. So I did them all separately even though they were all broken at the same time. I tried to pace myself so I didn't have to deal with all of it at once. I have called in to a supervisor and he left me a voicemail. I've tried to get back in touch him, but he hasn't gotten back in touch with me yet. It’s also time-consuming being on the phone with both AHS and the contractor, and trying to get everyone to come to an agreement. What's the point? I would just not have a warranty, buy a new oven and not have to deal with these people and waste all the time.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

When I had taken stuff out of the washer and put it into the dryer, the dryer started making all kinds of terrible noise, so I shut it off. There was a wired spring that got in the dryer and made all of the noise. There was a metal ring around the gasket there that's 18 inches in diameter and when the contractors came out, they had to order a new ring, which cost $4.49, and put it in the washer.
I called American Home Shield when I submitted the claim but I could never talk to anybody live. I tried to call them several times and I had to wait for a half hour. I hung up then tried to call back later and I always got, "We've got a heavy call volume." If that was the case, they should put somebody else to answer the phone. Their reps were effective but that time, I was a little irritated because I had to wait. Then, it took a day or two for somebody to come out and look at the washer, which was reasonable.
So far, the contractors that I have experienced have been decent. I had an air conditioner issue last year and one contractor came in and gave me an evaluation. He was going to replace the compressor but American Home Shield called in another guy who put it in before. They had different ideas so AHS paid for the less expensive deal. This was during the winter time when my furnace was malfunctioning and it took several days to get the contractors to come out. But I understood that because of the extremely cold weather we had. I wish they got here sooner but I was not the only person in the world with a bad furnace during cold weather. Other than that, American Home Shield keeps raising their price right now, but they're all right.

He took off, came back and resealed the leak. He couldn't quite fix it the way he wanted, but he went beyond his duty and handled the job. On the other hand, the refrigerator is not quite cold enough anymore and it may be leaking again so, I'm going to call back on it. Other than that, I was very pleased.

I was having a problem with the dryer. When the guy sent out by American Home Shield came, he took it up, paused on everything he was doing and said that he had to get some parts. He came back three days later and tried to fix it. It worked for a couple of days but now it is broken again. So I'm expecting another person to come, this time, from another company. Also, I had a fan and its light was not coming on so I called AHS. A contractor came and looked at it and he said that I need to get another fan. He told me that it's cheaper to get another fan and for them to put it on, I have to give $75. He took the fan and left. I then bought a fan waiting for him.
Three days after, another person from the same company came. He took the old fan off and put in the new one I bought. I was informed that American Home Shield was going to pay me for the fan but they didn't. Also, the second contractor that came from the same company demanded another $75. So I paid the $75 because the guy was going to cause problems. He said he's not leaving and he was getting ready to take down the new fan that he put up. I just gave him the $75 and then he left. He said he has nothing to do with the first person that came and took my money. I have reported this case three times and AHS hasn't done anything. I talked to them and whoever picked up the phone disconnected me. They didn't pay for the fan and they didn't give me the $75 that I paid twice for the same job. That's a rip-off right there.
I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that have occurred with the purchase of the fan and additional s4rgvice fee that was paid.

He said that the only thing he could do was recommend that it be replaced.
American Home Shield called and said they're going to replace the stove and microwave. We're waiting now for the call from the installer. The timeline is somewhere between five and seven days. They called on a Friday or Saturday to let us know. I would tell a friend or family member that they might as well get American Home Shield because you never know when something's going to break down. I had a question I wanted to ask and he wasn't very considerate about the carpeting. He wasn't very tidy about his business too.
But throughout one year and a half of being with AHS, that's the only complaint I've had. The other contractors they sent did good work. I had a leak and the plumber came out and he took three holes cut in my ceiling before he found the leak. It took the plumber three or four visits before he ever found the problem. But then it still leaked and they had to come back twice or thrice on that before it was resolved. And then the guy came out to patch the ceiling. But they were rough, and I wasn't very happy with the way that they did the whole thing. He knocked the picture off the wall going up the hallway, and it fell coming down the steps. I went in there, picked it up, went upstairs and I told him that he needs to be careful doing things.
The ceiling fan was right where two of the holes were cut and I asked if we needed to take the blades off the ceiling fan, and he said no. He said they were not going to hurt my fan. But while I sat watching them, he was dropping mud all over the top of my fan. The way they patched the holes, they could've smoothened the mud a little more differently. I told the guy that they have to do all that sanding up there to get it evened out. The next time I have any problems, I do not want American Plumbing to come into my house.
I've always had a good interaction with the claims people. The first time I called was on Monday, and I asked if somebody would come on a Saturday because I had a bucket on the floor. The rep said the man from American Plumbing would come out. I said no but the rep did not have anybody else that could come. Eric, the first plumber that came, was superb and I loved his work. The next time I had a leak under the house, I asked for Eric and he came back with another guy, and they worked on that leak. And then when the ceiling leaked again, Eric wasn't sent that time and instead it was another guy and a partner that came on a Friday afternoon. This guy came up there and automatically, he said that where the water comes out of the spigot, the pipe up there needed caulking, so he caulked it. I told him we had company and he said to wait 24 hours.
The system went south and water kept coming, leaking down on my hardwood floor, so we put a bucket up there. I called again and he said to wait 24 hours. We went up there and checked the caulking, and the caulking was dry. But when people went to take a shower again, I had to put a bucket on the floor. When you flip the handle and the shower comes on then when you go to turn the shower off, you have the release button. On Friday, the leak was coming out of that release button and the plumber said he didn't see it even though it was coming out of there the whole time. And he came back on Monday and my husband got the ladder, got up in the ceiling and told the plumber where the leak was coming from.
There is no water there right now, but when Eric came and cut the ceiling the first time where the actual leak was, the leak had run over and there were spots there. I called back American Home Shield and asked them if those spots will be repaired, and they said no because it was not cut out by their plumber. But I've got a spot up here where that leak could be over there when I got the guy to come back and do the stapling. I guess I could get him to repair that. I wouldn't recommend anybody to American Home Shield and I would tell a friend or family member to not go with them. I'm really thinking about changing from American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the ongoing leak repairs that have now been completed and the rough finishes to repair the holes. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

Then A-1 magically came out the next day when they said they couldn’t come here for two whole weeks.
American Home Shield then sent me to the company that worked on the refrigerator, High Desert Appliance, and the technician was cool. He diagnosed it and called it in right away. I called American Home Shield and they said that it was approved for a new refrigerator. High Desert Appliance offered to deliver it to me and install it. I even told American Home Shield I wanted them to do it because I live alone and I don’t trust anyone, but they said there was no way. I have Facebook and I contacted them there too. They said a rep would contact me but nobody did. A supervisor contacted me but she did nothing and said, “There's nothing we can do.” She said that the company only came out to our area once a week and that they hired to deliver my new refrigerator.
My interaction with the claims representative was horrible. And when they finally got somebody out here, they were supposed to replace the refrigerator but it took them three weeks to get the unit here. Then I ordered it and I had to wait on the phone for two hours. I wasn’t going to wait for their email because they were taking forever. I kept emailing them and then they emailed me back and said, “The first time we heard about you being disabled or having medicine in there was from this email.” I told them that they were lying because I've told every single rep about that and High Desert Appliance also knew that.

Getting a hold of customer support on the phone has been, several times, with a long wait like close to an hour. That should be improved. But when I’ve submitted the repair order, they’ve always been out in a timely manner. And I’ve had several repairs that have been no problem. It was just the microwave replacement that seemed to take awfully a long time. The contractor was not able to repair it. When they brought the first microwave, it was damaged. Then I had to wait for them to get another one out. But it was taken care of and I finally got the replacement a couple of weeks ago. AHS is fine and it’s better to have it.

I got a hold of the person quickly when I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the toilet although we had a little confusion about whether it was really an emergency or not. We had some water overflowing and I would have taken care of that but they decided to call it an emergency. So, the contractor had to adjust the schedule to get out quickly. The contractor was capable, took care of things, knew what he was doing, took care of it with good dispatch and everything seems to be back to normal since the repair. American Home Shield did what we contracted them to do, they were prompt in taking care of the issues and they got the people to fix things.

A week or two ago, I called American Home Shield about our drainage softener that I thought had gotten replaced. It was super old and it broke off. But I was informed that it was not replaced last year, so we did not do anything about it and that was on us. A few weeks before that, we had some sort of a leakage in our bathtub. So, the contractor came out but they deemed it as a hole around the drain and it was for caulking. They said they normally didn’t do that, but I asked them to do it so we wouldn't have to go to the store and buy. He said he would call his boss, and his boss said okay, so the contractor got the clear sealant caulking and did it for us. I was incredibly happy with him for doing that.
The AHS reps are professional and normally it takes a couple of days for a technician to get to us. But AHS doesn’t cover as much of the things that I would think a warranty would cover. Nevertheless, AHS is a good investment and it's more peace of mind. My best experience was when we bought the house and a little while later, we were about to have a big freeze and so I was going to go out and to seal the house. And I realized that there was an issue with one of the outside pipes and it was going to cost me 100 bucks to fix that one issue. But AHS fixed both pipes and I just paid the normal $75 fee. That was huge right there in itself.

My son was home alone and heard the air conditioner condenser outside the house making a funny noise and blowing what looked like white smoke, so he turned off the system. We called AHS and they sent someone. The guy who came was very professional and did an evaluation. He said that what my son saw was perfectly normal.
He said that when it gets cold the coils have a tendency to freeze so the unit takes warm air from inside the house and reverses the fan and blows it through to the outside to melt the ice on the coils. What my son saw was like the white smoke that comes out of your mouth when it's cold and you breathe and the funny noise was the fan in reverse. The tech didn’t do anything, but his evaluation and explanation were helpful. All the same, I had to pay for it. But he still checked everything over. He said that as long as he was here, he would make sure everything was in working order. He did, which was good news as well.
Submitting a claim has always been very easy. They ask what is wrong and what the symptoms are of the whatever. Then they choose a vendor and they send me a notification. Their vendor has been engaged and if I don’t hear from the vendor within 24 hours, they give me the vendor’s phone number to call them myself. However, I have yet to have an instance where I needed to call a vendor. They usually call me to set up the appointment rather quickly.
Once, our warranty expired because we didn’t get a notification that it was about to. Perhaps their email went into the spam folder and we didn’t get it. A couple of weeks later, I realized and we had to report it after it expired. They should not just rely on email. They should make a phone call or send a text to back that up. But over the years, I have yet to have a bad experience with AHS. My sister has them for her house as well. We have two homes and have them for both homes. I'm a realtor and I always recommend a home warranty to my clients because it enhances the value. I have used several home warranty companies over the years, but my primary is AHS, the one that I've been most pleased with.

The heat pump wasn’t working and submitting the claim to AHS was fine. However, the company they hired to do it was incompetent and awful. They were unqualified to fix the unit. They shorted the whole thing out and made it worse. The first company never came back in and after four weeks, American Home Shield finally hired another company to come in. The tech came in and did the whole thing in an hour. He was wonderful. We're quite satisfied with AHS, but they could have resolved the issue much sooner. All in all, I’d still recommend them.

American Home Shield sent someone to look at both of my dishwasher and my stove. They fixed the dishwasher, but the stove was very old and they had to order some parts. We had been contemplating on replacing the stove if they couldn’t fix it right away. I called them and asked for the repairman who was here. He said to call the next day because all the parts are ordered through American Home Shield. I called the very next day and the girl said to me that it looked like American Home Shield was having a problem getting the parts. I said that it was just as well because maybe they have a policy where they’ll replace it or cash out if things are so old that they can’t get parts. I said that I’d be interested in that and I can use the money for a new one.
I didn’t hear anything for four days so I called back and I talked to somebody else. She said that the parts were ordered and they were already on their way to the plumber. I told her that I asked if I could be called before these parts were ordered and that they may not be able to find them. She replied that there was no record of that in the file. So I asked to talk to a supervisor, who just totally blew me on. She said that if they could ship the parts back, they might be able to do something. But she claimed she checked and said that they can’t ship the parts back. When the plumber called me within a few hours to make an appointment, I said to forget it and that I don’t need the stove repaired.
They didn’t offer me a cash out like I was expecting and that was wrong. The supervisor wouldn’t do anything for me. I wasn’t expecting thousands of dollars. I was expecting about $300 or anything that might help in purchasing a new stove. I didn’t do it any further because they were impossible to deal with when it came to things like that. I've been with American Home Shield for years. The reason I stayed with them was it's hard to get a dependable plumber, especially on short notice. Luckily, I can work with most of the people they send over.
I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve the issues that have occurred to have your dishwasher and stove replaced.

One of our faucets was leaking in the middle while another was leaking even though it was turned off. I called AHS to file a claim and the rep that I talked to was unclear at times. I mentioned the kitchen faucet to her and she told me that it was covered but when I told her about the faucet in the toilet above the tub, she thought it was the faucet in the tub. So, she asked me if there was a warranty for the tub. I told her it was just a regular faucet in the bathroom that we turned on and off above the tub. I also explained to her that all faucets are covered. I had a few problems understanding her as well but when she repeated everything, we got things clarified.
We called in a work order and so far, no technician has arrived yet. They are supposed to come tomorrow but I called them and asked if it was okay for them to send someone on the 21st. They said that they would not reschedule and that the scheduler would have to call me. So I don't know if the appointment was scheduled for the 21st or not. We've had AHS for a long time now and the vendors they used to work with have been more prompt. Now, the vendors are a little too hard to reach sometimes. My ice maker was not making ice. I called American Home Shield and their reps were very professional. They were able to set up a contractor within 24 hours. The contractors were nice and professional, except one who was hesitant to touch the built-in. The first guy said that a plumber had to come in because the problem had something to do with a valve underneath the refrigerator. But when the plumber came in, he said that he wouldn't touch a built-in refrigerator and he ran away. So we brought a plumber in on our own and he said that the valve was not fixed so, he repaired it. The ice maker is working now though it took about a month for it to be fixed.

There was a little bit of leak in one of the rooms. The bathroom pipeline had to get fixed. I called American Home Shield and they responded quickly enough. I did the request on a Sunday and some company came in by Monday. They did their job well. The only thing is that they had to put a two-way drywall and American Home Shield didn’t send anybody. Eventually, when I called, they said that when they find somebody, they can fix it. But this is Texas and it's hot and with the drywall out, I was getting a lot of the attic heat into the room. It's about close to 100 degrees here and I had the drywall open.
American Home Shield is big enough to find a local guy to be able to do the drywall. It has been a week and they can’t give me a date saying that they haven't found anybody yet. The point out from the speech is that they weren’t even looking because I went through two people on the phone who asked if the wall was actually cut. They had to verify that so I figured out American Home Shield pretty much, after the job was done in terms of fixing the leak, forgot about the drywall totally. Finally, AHS said that they’ll just do a cash-out option. I just told them to send me the $100 check and that's what they did. Rightly, they should have identified something within a day or two and just closed up the wall. In any event, I had to do it myself now but that’s fine.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good and efficient. I noticed some leakage coming out of the wall and I had started experiencing it one week prior to reporting the claim. I did that online and it was simple. But it took four days before I got in contact with a contractor. I called one and a half days after reporting the claim and no one called back.
It took the actual plumbing contractor three days before they actually scheduled plumbing because we were phone tagging. But otherwise, they were quick. They had to get parts though, so it was another four days before they could come and fix the problem. The other contractor did patchwork for the wall so the leak wouldn't get the drywall. It took four days for them to even reach me but they did the work immediately. Both contractors were really nice and efficient. They explained everything that they were doing and I was happy.

I called American Home Shield on February 28, 2018 because my real estate agent had reported the hot water tank was leaking (my home is for sale). They very quickly sent out a service provider who said they did not service propane hot water tanks. That having been reported, they sent out another provider on March 2, who affirmed that the tank indeed needed to be replaced, and the shut-off valve and piping around the tank also needed to be replaced to bring it up to code. So far, so good. Then nothing was done! The provider did not report back to AHS (according to AHS).
When I called AHS on March 12 (I was in Hawaii then, on vacation) they told me there had been no report filed and they would contact the provider. I called back on March 15 and was told there would be a charge for the “extras” and the AHS person told me what the charges would be, so I called the provider and gave my credit card number to pay for the extras. Then another person from AHS called me to tell me what the extra charges would be and told me I should have waited for his call before contacting the provider and paying! I called again on March 19 to see why nothing was happening and was told the “part was ordered” and as soon as it was in it would be installed.
I called again today, March 23 to see why nothing had been installed yet (I am still in Hawaii so at least I have hot water here!) and was told “someone dropped the ball and listed it so that the installer would pick it up instead of it should be delivered to the installer”. So the latest news is that it should reach the installer on Monday March 26, at which time they are supposed to call my real estate agent to be let in the house and install the hot water heater. Unbelievable that it is taking so long to get a new hot water heater!

You are better off putting the money in a savings account and hiring your own professionals. For example, in the contract it states hose bibs are covered. What they do not tell you is this only covers bibs inside the home not the bibs outside your home. Even if it is attached to your home that doesn’t count. Scam. Scam. Scam. Do not waste your time or money.

I had a leak in the bathroom and my basement. It was getting worse so I called American Home Shield. It annoyed me when I had to talk to a machine but their response was wonderful and my claim was taken care of immediately. It was a horrific day and snow was coming down profusely so I was shocked that the contractor came and he was timely.
I also asked the tech, who was excellent, if he could check my kitchen sink and he agreed. Something was wrong and the washer was no good either. He went to move the washer and saw that it was corroded. The little leak that I had became a big leak and it wasn't only on the top, it was under the sink as well. He said that it was more than a washer problem and a replacement was needed. So, I asked him to replace it. When I called American Home Shield, I didn't know that I should have told them if more than one thing was to be worked on. However, the tech said that he'd call and make sure that they would cover it. He did what he had to do and told me that they were going to cover it.
Then, true to his words, the tech came back and did everything. He was amazing as he looked at the sink and brought me a faucet. It is beautiful and I love it. He also told me about this little thing on the side and asked me if I wanted him to cap it or have a thing where I could put soap in. I agreed and the next day, he was back and he put the thing in. I was so happy with this young man. He was knowledgeable, kind, and polite. I called up his boss and told him that he has an asset in the tech. I extolled their virtues and I was so grateful because it was one of those weeks when everything was falling apart at the same time. I had my washing machine and my refrigerator worked on, too, and I have always been pleased with American Home Shield. I want them to know that. I have recommended them to others as well.

I asked her to help me wrestle with issue I was facing - pay $720 to fix my AC (I am an AHS customer but Freon is only covered 15%) or buy a new AC system ($8K-$10K) with my own money. I would prefer that when my AC breaks and that repairs will continue to increase over time, we reach a point where a new AC is ordered. However, I was told that AHS is a repair-first company and technicians indicated that AHS would do everything possible to avoid replacing our AC system. They explained that few, if any, local companies want to work with AHS due to the small amount they pay technicians and the hassles they put them through to fix things. I asked to speak with the woman's supervisor and she told me, "no way" but someone could call me back if I did not want to talk to her.

When the guy came, he shook his head. When he opened the dishwasher door, it said 1986, so it was just old and had died. We picked one of the least expensive dishwashers for the replacement. It's extremely quiet and everything seems to be working well with it. Moreover, I don’t have to wash dishes anymore so our day-to-day operations has greatly improved. They came when they said they were going to come and the guy was very courteous and business-like. I liked that he discovered what was wrong very quickly and fixed it in about an hour and he was gone. It was a faulty wire job that had a short circuit and he fixed that. Plus, he put an inline breaker. He had a breaker but he didn't have the correct one there, so he improvised and made an inline one that works just as great. He was working in the attic and outside and he did everything efficiently. I asked him what was going on and he told me exactly what it was. He seemed like a very nice man who is well informed and he knew what he was doing.
I've had AHS for two or three months now and that was my first-time experience with this warranty company. If AHS does it that way every time I have a situation, I'll be very pleased. AHS is probably the largest company, and when I reviewed them, they had the highest ratings from customer reviews, so that was what steered me in that direction. There are some companies out there that claim to be comparable but when I read the fine print in the contract, there are a lot of things they don't cover. AHS is very plain on anything they don't cover and they're upfront about it, and it seems they cover just about everything. You can add on things like your pool and if you have a pool house or a cabana, you can add that on too.

The ice dispenser on my refrigerator had an issue. I submitted the claim for that with American Home Shield online and it went fine. However, it ended up being two service calls because the contractor came out and he was not able to really figure out what was causing the issue. The ice dispenser would block, so nothing would come out. He unblocked it but he did not diagnose the cause of it, so a few days later it blocked up again.
I submitted a claim again to American Home Shield online and they sent people out who diagnosed it properly. The solenoid in the ice dispenser was keeping the little closure thing from closing completely so, it would freeze up in there, but they fixed it. They had to order a part which only took a couple of days and they came right back out to put it in. The convenience of being able to do anything online is wonderful. It would’ve been nice if the technician could’ve diagnosed the problem the first time but it wasn’t really any big inconvenience. American Home Shield has been a good company, although I wasn’t really happy with the service from the contractor when we had our air conditioner replaced about two years ago. We were doing our roof at that time, and I told the contractor to make sure that when they install the new air conditioner, they do it in a way that the roofer will not have a problem. However, the roofer ended up having a big problem. The air conditioner was mounted on the roof, so there was some extra money I had to pay for another guy to come out to pick up the air conditioner so the roofers can finish their job. The roofers said that they could have mounted it in a different way and it wouldn't have cost any more money to do it that way.
I’ve been an American Home Shield customer for about four years. We've had our refrigerator replaced through them and a few other items worked on, and it's been a great experience other than that. I would recommend them because of the other experiences we've had them. I tell other people that if they have any problem at all, it would cost $75 for the initial visit for the person to come out and take a look at what they have. Maybe they could fix it right then or they could order the part, but that’s all they would pay. If the part has to be replaced, they can upgrade the item or the appliance that they need if they want to by paying an extra fee for that or they will replace up to that. Having a home warranty is good.

The sink should be on top with the marble but it was down onto the marble which was causing it to sink. I have to ask them to come out, remove my marble countertop and put the sink back in. The home is over three years old, so it's not a contractor job now unless I go to court and sue them because I purchased a home like it is and found out that it's incorrect. It turned out that the sensors were bad, so they replaced them and so far, it’s been working all right. And everybody at AHS has reacted pretty quickly and they answered my questions as well.
However, I don’t like that I’m paying AHS $75 each time the contractors come out and check something. The only thing that AHS seems to be covering is anything that has to be done if it gets done, and that’s it. That has worked out mostly but with a couple of things that were done, I paid most of it, and American Home Shield paid about $25 or so with some of it. It was very cold then and I had to go a couple of days with no heat because they had to order parts or the techs didn’t fix it right. American Home Shield needs to have more than one service tech for specific tasks. If the person can't come right then, since that was on a weekend, then they should have a backup person who can come, especially when there’s really detrimental weather. Luckily, I had a fireplace and that kept my house warm. Still, that was the first time I had a problem with American Home Shield. Most of it was the tech problem too and not so much of American Home Shield.
Other than that, the techs have been great. When I had a leak in the bathroom, they couldn’t find it but I knew there was a leak somewhere because water was all over the floor and the guy waited outside about an hour but there was no water to be found. Other than that, they’ve fixed plumbing issues before and also a ceiling fan, a garbage disposal and my dryer. I really like American Home Shield and I’ve referred a lot of people to them. My experience with American Home Shield was disappointing -- it was nothing short of fraud. We had a leak in our evaporator coil and they underpaid the technicians to do the work. The work was for 300 bucks but I have to pay over a $1,000 out of pocket for uncovered things to get fixed. The technician told me that the state of Texas required it to come up to code. I consulted with more reputable air conditioning companies and they said that it was what the state of Texas wants to be done but it is not a requirement. I asked the air conditioning company, as well as American Home Shield, to provide me documentation showing that this is a state requirement and they have yet to produce a documentation.
The only way that these technicians can make money is doing American Home Shield work at cost or even for a loss then overcharging for unnecessary work to be done on the rest of the air conditioning unit, and that is exactly what has happened. American Home Shield can do a better job of contacting and partnering with more reputable contractors. I have pretty much given up on the claim because American Home Shield is very vague on the pricing. I’m supposed to be given a $250 credit towards these upgrades that the contractor was saying but American Home Shield will not tell me how that $250 that is in our contract is applied. They just said it is confidential. So, that just leaves a queasy feeling in my stomach and it appears very shady. I do not recommend AHS. They are horrible.

Submitting that claim was difficult because the lady rep on the phone couldn’t understand what part of the heater it was that was broken. She just couldn’t comprehend what was going on. The contractor looked at the broken part, took pictures of it, and left. He said he had to go and research it because he didn’t know if it was covered or not. American Home Shield called me back the next day and just left a message. They said it was a part of the heater, but the cable that controls it runs around right into the guts of the heater. It's an electronic filter that goes into the controls of the heater. I wasn’t very satisfied with that. We just left it unrepaired because it was so expensive. We had used somebody else and this guy came out of Richmond, and for some apparent reason, he seemed like he was a whole lot better than the local guys around here. After the repair, the heating element has been very good. My wife's sister-in-law stayed downstairs and before the repair, she used to complain that it was cold. Now she complains it's hot, so I know it's working. I'd recommend American Home Shield to others.

My experience with American Home Shield was absolutely horrendous. I sold my home on February 28th and I called AHS on the same date and told them that, and I was closing escrow as well. The gal said, "We'll cancel it March 1st 'cause you don't cancel it until it's closed in case something happens." So, that went along. Everything was fine and then we closed escrow. I ended up paying for the annual renewal for the people who bought the house. About a week ago, I got an overdue notice for $54.12. I called and I tried to explain to somebody that the bill wasn't mine, and I didn't even know why I got an overdue bill because it used to be automatically paid through my bank account.
I spent about 15 minutes with this person who was absolutely clueless. They passed it down to another girl and I started talking to her, and she was absolutely clueless too. I got upset and she said not to yell at her. I wasn't yelling at her. I just wanted somebody to handle this. She said that she would put me on hold for a minute. She did but she never came back on the line. I sat there for 15 minutes and then I finally hung up. This morning, I said to my wife that I couldn't handle it anymore with these people and so, my wife called them. She spent 45 minutes before this got taken care of. She went through four people before the fourth person finally got it. The first three couldn't even speak English and it was horrendous. Their customer service was an absolute joke.
But I had a couple of warranty claims with them when I had the policy and those went fine. I was in my house when they put a new water heater in. Also, I've had two different rental properties with them for a total of 10 years. If it was a warranty issue, it was never an issue. They got the contractor out and everything was handled. But the issue was with the billing. It was something that obviously was screwed up in their computer system and it was so simple, and I went through two reps and my wife went through four to cancel a $54.12 item that was incorrectly billed to us.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the hot water heater replaced and the $54 charge that was incorrectly billed. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Our AC unit stopped working and the AHS site was pretty easy, straightforward and self-explanatory when I made the claim. Their contractor called a few minutes before he arrived and so did the company the day before and told us around what time to expect him. The contractor said he would be here around a certain time and he arrived pretty quickly. He was very professional. He took a look at the problem and kind of explained to us why we were having a problem with the AC which I thought was pretty neat. He then fixed it within less than an hour and the AC has been pretty good since. The professionals that American Home Shield chose to come out here were very friendly and responsive so we were really happy with both them and American Home Shield. It's definitely worth having AHS because I only pay the $75 for somebody to come out as opposed to having to replace the whole unit by myself.

This was my second claim with Home Shield and it was way better than my first one. They fixed the heating element and put in a new circuit board. They were here for 10 minutes. Since then, my dishwasher is working good. It’s good to have a warranty on a property in the first year because you don’t really know how things operate in the home. So, the warranty is valuable to have.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for the electrical components that make our garage door work. Their representatives got back to me immediately saying that they had someone look after it who contacted us within a reasonable amount of time. In less than 24 hours, there was somebody here. The service was done very professionally and the contractor repaired my garage door the first day that he came. He said that if there would be any complications of any kind, I should contact American Home Shield and AHS would have them come back because there was a time limit. It so happened that the problem reoccured. So, I called and AHS and the contractor acted as promptly as they did the first time and everything became fine.
However, we had another experience with our dishwasher. American Home Shield responded promptly as they do and arranged for a company to come and look at it. That company was supposed to arrive on a specific date and time but they never showed up. I contacted them and I couldn't get anyone. After two or three attempts, I got back to American Home Shield and they contacted the company also and said that they were very rude to them and that AHS would never recommend that company again.
In the meantime, we had a couple of weeks pass by. We were trying to be patient assuming somebody was going to come. So, I was talking to American Home Shield and saying that all that time was ridiculous and that I could have already bought a new one. We ended up buying one and AHS reimbursed us for the majority of the cost of the new dishwasher. So, the problem with the dishwasher was still satisfactorily resolved. AHS said that the company they contacted was the only one in the area that they contracted for that product. So, I told AHS that I've lived in my town for 20 years and as a pastor of a church here I know of some people who come to our church who have a business that repairs dishwashers. I told AHS that those people were more than capable of taking care of such a problem. There were more people in our area who could have taken care of the problem. It was just that AHS wasn't aware of who they were. Still, AHS has been very cooperative. I'm very satisfied and I would recommend them.

My washing machine has been broken since February 28. I'm thankful I had a spare washing machine to use. I made a claim with American Home Shield for the washing machine. I called them and left a message over the weekend. They returned my call on that Monday and the service tech was out here on Tuesday. The representatives that they send are very knowledgeable, very nice and very polite. The technician came to evaluate the situation. He looked at the washing machine, explained what was going on and how the process would work, that he would submit the request for the part to be ordered. He said that once the part came to them, someone would be back to install the part. He explained everything quite well.
They put the part in but it still did not work. And after more than a week, I was told that after they took the part in, the technician would notify AHS that the part did not work and that the machine was non-reparable. And that within 24 to 48 hours, I should hear from AHS as to what they will do, either replacing or whatever their process would be. After over a week, I had not heard from AHS at all. I contacted them a couple of times, and then finally social media came into play and I voiced how I was upset. It has been over a week and I still didn't know what was going on. Within a short period of time, I got a message back asking me to please private message them on Facebook, which I did. Within two hours I had an email and a phone call explaining what the process was and what they were willing to do.
So, it took a little bit of poor publicity on social media, and then they got their act and gear. It took over 10 days to get any type of response. They made me a cash offer and offered me a replacement unit, which is a brand that I'm not pleased with and I would prefer to go with something else. So, I'm waiting for a call back from them now to give me pricing and two other options before I make my decision. AHS is very good at getting someone out here but their problem is lack of communication. They need to work on their time frame. If they tell me that they’re going to contact me within 24 to 48 hours, they need to do that. 10 days to respond is not acceptable.

The guy came out and he was able to diagnose it in 15 minutes and fixed it. For the dryer, he replaced a part in the back and it’s still working fine.
A couple of years ago, we had some issues with the air conditioner in the house and they came out and fixed it. The price point is $45 to $50 a month and as much as I’ve gotten into it at this point, I don’t know if it’s worth it in the long run. But as long as I use it a couple of times a year, I’m coming out even because it’s an insurance policy for something big which is why I keep it. We had an HVAC claim several years ago in my mother’s home and I was extremely dissatisfied with the people from Myers Comfort Specialist that came out to service the unit. It was terrible and as I began to research them, it was astounding to see the number of negative reviews just strictly through Google reviews and even on the American Home Shield’s website. We fully understood that we have to pay for a refrigerant, but when the guy finally got there, it was dark and raining.
The guy was out in the dark and in the rain and supposedly fixed the problem. My mother paid about $300 for a refrigerant. Lo and behold, not more than just a couple of months later, we had a problem again. All the refrigerant that my mother had paid for had leaked out. This company tried to claim we were outside of the warranty of the work they did by one day and that it wasn’t really what the problem was when they came out before. They ended up fixing it for my mom and charging her for another $400 for the refrigerant.
I wrote a letter to the owner of Myers Comfort Specialist and he never responded. They totally ripped my mother off. I was really unhappy. Now, when the HVAC problem came up again, American Home Shield assigned Myers Comfort Specialist again. I got calls from American Home Shield twice, but I refused to have them. By really putting my foot down on it, American Home Shield found another person for me and he was wonderful. He was really good. I also had American Home Shield on my previous home and we always had good experiences with the people that were sent out. We never really had a bad deal, just that one company. American Home Shield just needs to monitor reviews on the companies that they’re contracting to work for them because Myers Comfort Specialist should not be doing business with them. They were totally unprofessional and giving American Home Shield a really bad name.

I live in a condo by myself and I've been with American Home Shield for a while. It’s $75 and I pay 40 some dollars a month. It’s not cheap but the warranty gives me peace of mind knowing that I can call and get somebody right away and get something fixed. It's well worth it. I usually call them when I have a claim though I sometimes I go online. After that, they assign somebody, and they call me pretty quick.
When I filed a claim for my dryer, the first technician that came out didn't know what he was doing. I gave him $75 and he cleaned it out but it still made a loud noise. I lived with a loud noise for a few months. They said that they'd give me six months and if it breaks down, I wouldn’t have to pay again. I called AHS back a little over six months, so I paid again. This time, they sent this guy from Magic Appliance. He said it was a problem with the blower and that he’d get me the part. He came the next day, put it in, and it ran like a charm. The dryer is quiet now and it works. I told him that I loved it and when I had another issue, I asked AHS to send Magic Appliance again because I was satisfied with them. I knew that AHS picks the contractors randomly but when their rep said she'd do it for me. So that was very nice.
I also had an issue with my microwave. It's 24 years old and it is built in. All of a sudden, when I put something in there, it made a noise and it wouldn't heat. It scared the hell out of me because microwaves are scary and I heard stories. The technician came and said that he had to get the part but since it was an old microwave, he didn’t know if he could get it. I told the guy that if he couldn’t fix it then I didn’t know if it was worth it and that he had to come back. When he did, he came with another guy who was the one that previously fixed my dryer with whom I was very pleased with. The guys fooled around for 45 minutes then they pulled the microwave out and took it with them last week.
I trust them and if they couldn't fix it, then I know it couldn't be fixed. I told the guys that I knew how they operate and that they were going to fix it if they could. I also told them that I didn’t want to have a microwave that would give me trouble later or that would be dangerous. The guy said that they'd fix it if they could but if they couldn't fix it, they’d get me a new one. And if I didn’t like it, they’d send me some money and I could do what I want. So far, I haven't heard back from them.
The technicians that AHS sent out varies and I haven't had a problem with any of them other than that one technician that didn't know what he was doing with my dryer. But he tried awfully hard. I told my friends about AHS and that they should have it because larger appliances could break down. Hopefully, they’re going to get some action. The lady who lives above me had them, too, and she said that she was glad I recommended it. But she said that AHS gave her a bad time when her air conditioning went down.

It turned out that it wasn't a leak but something that must have been obstructing it while we were using it. But we still needed the other thing fixed too. So, when they came out, they checked both things. They fixed one and there was no leak on the other. When we submitted the claim online, it was simple. We went to the online portal that they have and we picked out the issue and the brand of the dishwasher. Then, they send you a text and the contractor contacts you by phone so, it's painless and it was all automatic. In the previous case that we had, we called and spoke to someone because of the scheduling issue.
Both times, the contractors were great. They usually will call you and then let you text them back if there's a rescheduling issue. But no issues at all on either one. The contractors who came were professional and explained everything they had to do. Then somebody had to come back for the parts, so the repair took about 4 days overall, which was too many days. That was the first time that we had somebody sent by AHS out here. The second time, my husband knew what they did, but the refrigerator froze over again so he ended up taking care of it. The whole HVAC system was replaced back in May and I had a continual problem with it. I had three or four service calls to get that corrected. Several contractors couldn’t find the problem. I just had a contractor out here about three weeks ago and hopefully, we resolved it. So right now, this is the second or third circuit breaker that’s been replaced. And the contractor who came before put in what appears to have been a used circuit breaker. So the quality of the service sometimes is questionable.
My experience in contacting anybody has been terrible too. Typically, when you call their usual 800 number, anytime of day or night, you get a recording that says they’re experiencing higher than usual call volumes and there’s going to be extended wait periods. And it has been a few months since I’ve done that. And I’ve waited on the line for over 30 minutes on occasion.
As a result, I did some research and found some corporate phone numbers for the corporate headquarters. And even with them, when I called and left messages, it took a considerable amount of time for somebody to get in touch with me. One of the folks in the corporate office, a year ago, when I expressed my concern about wait times and how frustrating that was, told me that they’re working on it and they’re aware of it. But as of six or four months ago when I tried again, they were maybe aware of it but they didn’t seem to be doing anything about it. And in the last time that happened, I left two or three messages and the last message I left included the fact that I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau again if I didn’t hear from anybody. Then lo and behold, I got a call back. At that point, it was helpful because I was able to get a contractor out here.
The contractors were generally pleasant. But they’re generally small mom and pop companies that pull in in these old vehicles with magnets on the sides of the vehicles, instead of more professional looking companies or contractors that have real vans, that are painted, and have the name on it, and you might happen to have heard of. It just seems like they get these little fly-by-night companies.
But I'm still with AHS. When ultimately the service is done, much of the time, it’s been satisfactory and it has saved me some money. I’m also paying for a contract for my niece. I would caution them though about the fact that it’s very difficult to get in touch over the phone. Now, I realize that you can go on the website for service and that certainly what I will do if there’s a completely different issue.

The payment system that AHS has in place allows me to pay upfront and it makes it easier once the service is rendered. I would recommend American Home Shield. The only thing is the AHS site needs some improvement as it does not give me the opportunity to identify more than one unit. If I have three air conditioners and I need two of them repaired because they’re broken, it doesn’t give me the ability to indicate that there is more than one unit.

But in my recent claim with American Home Shield, I had a motor called a power vent that was bad and they didn’t cover it. It was on the edge of the house, on my crawl space, at the sidewall like the foundation wall. Being a consumer, I didn’t see what the difference was between that power vent and a water heater power vent that they cover. But that's okay. I'll take care of that issue.

It's American Home Shield's policy to give the contractor an opportunity to fix my washing machine and so this is the sixth time the same contractor has come out. They refuse to send somebody else. When I first made the call, the contractor texted me to ask what was wrong and immediately ordered a motherboard for it without even saying why. They have sent part after part and it's not being fixed.
American Home Shield does not have good customer service and I’m dissatisfied. They couldn't care less about their customer and it seems you get whatever you get. I live in an older home so as far as saving money, it helps but it can be very frustrating because I feel like they use the bottom of the barrel contractors a lot of times. The pool people were great, came out the same day I called and fixed the pool. But I’ve had several experiences where it’s not that wonderful and if I had bigger savings when I bought my house, I wouldn’t have gotten American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has been great forever. They call me and they set me up for an appointment with someone. The contractor comes out and they figure out what’s going on. I was in real-estate for 30 years, and we’ve been using American Home Shield. With the advent of this kind of service, we started using different companies and found out this is who I like and they service my clients well. So, we’ve had them at this house for years and they’ve been fabulous until this year. I called because my oven stopped working and I had it repaired repeatedly through AHS. And I called and they sent me an email that said that this certain company was going to come out and contact me to make an appointment. And so, I was waiting and weeks went by and nothing.
So, I called the contracting company and left a message. I get that they were busy because this was before the holidays. But they could have at least called me so I could get some idea when they were coming out. Still nothing, so I finally called American Home Shield back and told them the contracting company never called me, and I didn't want AHS to refer me to that company again. AHS said it was fine and that they wouldn't. I said I would like them to have Cirrus come out because they’ve been fixing everything in this house every time we called for the last six years. AHS said they understood, but then I got an email that said they referred me to the same company who didn’t call me. That made me a little angry and I never got a call and I tried to reach the contractor but couldn’t.
I have a double oven, and I went through the holiday without one of the ovens. We were eight people here. On top of that, when I had originally called, I said my dryer was running really hot and I needed to get that handled because that was dangerous. But nothing came through and no one called. When I called the second time, I told them not to send this company and I really wanted to focus on the stove. The third time I called AHS, at this time it has been months, I asked for a manager but they would not let me speak to one. These were the actions of a company who’s going out of business, and I told them that.
So the rep had me stay on the phone while she tried to get a hold of Cirrus and finally said that she wasn't getting any answer and that Cirrus was really busy. But she said she will make sure that Cirrus is the one who comes out and I would get an email stating that it’ll be Cirrus calling me. But they referred me again to the company who wouldn’t call me, so I was livid. It had been going on for four months which was a seriously long time. So, I worked on the website, and I did a “Speak to someone now.” And I had a communication with AHS typing back and forth. No one seemed to be able to do anything and I was certainly not getting service.
I went through the whole thing and told them to look the claim up. They gave confirmation numbers or order and I wrote down everything and who I spoke to. The rep said that instead of going through the normal process, I would be put right to dispatch, which contacted them immediately. That would be wonderful. And then I told them that as long as we were doing that, I requested for someone to come out for my dryer as well. The rep said she would add that to the dispatch. I had to leave, and then my husband got a phone call from the company who would never call me. The first time they came out, they saw what was wrong and then they ordered the parts. I was very concerned that the claims weren't going to be handled properly.
When I was out of town, they came over. It’s this company, but this guy really seemed to know what he was doing and he said he was going to order the parts and they were going to go to him. That was wrong because the parts are supposed to come here. That’s how they've always done it. In that way, we know when the part arrived and we contact them to immediately get an appointment. But if the parts go to them, we don’t know when the parts arrive and they can just wait. And the parts don’t usually take long. They’re Cirrus parts and they are still in existence.
When I came back home, my husband said he has not heard anything from the contracting company. That could be another delay ploy. But then they called and said they got the parts. They came out and they sent an apprentice who had been learning with the owner of this company. He fixed the oven and I was very happy. The stove is working. But when I asked about the dryer, he said it wasn’t on the job order. He explained what the problem was with their company, and I understood why. I’ve been in business forever, and I understand circumstances, so I’m good. The owner of that company then called me and apologized profusely. He said they now got someone who was going to do the scheduling. He even gave his private line.
Somebody knows what the contractor is doing out, but they never got anything from AHS. This guy said that AHS used to be really good but AHS picked up over two million new contracts this year. AHS was expanding really rapidly and they still do. They are a more expensive company than all of the other companies, but because they’ve been so good, I was willing to pay top dollar to have them. But the contracting company had people who called them screaming and angry because these people got this company’s name but this company never got anything from AHS telling them to call and set an appointment. He said AHS has gotten overwhelmed and the contracting company didn’t get the job orders.
So now I am concerned that AHS either has grown far too quickly or they’re just not training their people well. And they will not let you go to a manager to get things worked out. There’s no other way of contacting someone in the chain of hierarchy. What I usually do at this point is I’ll contact the CEO directly and let the CEO let it roll downhill. And then someone will call because when it comes from the top person, pretty much everybody jumps. I need AHS to come back and I need them to fix a couple of things on the stove and the oven because it got warped to pieces and still the temperature is off even though it ignites.
I bought this oven from the brochure at Cirrus. We went top of the line but it turned out to be of lousy quality and they immediately stopped making them. It’s a really bad piece of equipment and so far, AHS has put out more in repairs on this thing than what we paid for it. We almost paid more in deductibles than we could have gone out and bought a new one. It was a hundred bucks each time and the motherboard had been replaced several times, and that’s a really heavy price. I would be happy to have it replaced and they say that’s what they’ll do, but they’re not doing it. That worries me that they’re not stepping up. They’re willing to keep putting out money when really, they should just replace. For any business, that is a red line right there.
The bottom line is, AHS is not functioning like a company that is going to stay around. Their inner structure is either not keeping up with how big they’re getting or the people aren’t trained, or it’s not effective anymore. I don’t want to change companies because I haven’t found anybody who is even as good as they are. But I’m going to look and talk to some people. I have a lot of connections with real-estate up here and I hate to run around bad mouthing, but I would tell people not to go to AHS right now. If AHS can’t get things fixed, what’s the point of spending $6,800 upfront or more making payments and not getting service? AHS is a bad business and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone until they fix their growing pains.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your built-in double oven repaired. I am aware that it has been repaired but I would be glad to speak with you about your experience.

On January 1st, my water heater went bad. I notified American Home Shield and a plumber was out two days later. The plumber said that he can replace the heater but it was not identical but American Home Shield said no. I waited nine days without hot water for AHS to ship it to Durango where I could have had one after two days that was just as comparable and was less the cost. My plumber’s assistant called and she said she was on hold for an hour and a half trying to talk to the contractor. I tried to talk to AHS and I was on hold for over an hour and 15 minutes before I got to a person to talk to. It did not make me any happier to be on hold that long.
AHS has to fix their wait times or should have the option of someone calling me back. It would be really good because I started to lose patience unless I knew that I’d sit for over an hour. Their representatives were doing their job and it was not their fault. They did not seem to have any control or flexibility on the type of water heater that could be replaced. Although, the representative was polite. I even tried to talk to a supervisor but they didn’t feel like they could help me.
When I called on day four, I got the option of getting my own heater and having AHS reimburse it. But at that point, the heater was already shipped and I had to pay a restocking fee of $100 which I wasn’t going to do. I was sort of screwed. I had a very good plumber and he installed the heater very nice. He was a local person and not from American Home Shield. And he was questioning if he wants to work with them in the future. If a friend would ask about American Home Shield, I would have them read the fine print.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the water heater and plumbing issue repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

So, I called American Home Shield back and asked them to please get in touch with someone else to send a technician out. Once they got in touch with the second company, the guy from there arrived out to cure the problem of both pumps and the pumps are performing great now. They went out of their way to explain and show me everything. They didn't come to rip me or AHS off. They found out that water has gotten under the coating, rushed to the metal case on it and it was beyond repair. They then ordered a new unit through AHS and as soon as it came in they called and made arrangements to come over. The then guy came out at the scheduled time. He showed where some of the wirings had dried out and crashed. He took it and charged it up. He made sure that everything was done properly. He also cleaned up everything when it was done. Then, when they talked to him, they told him that the work order was closed. But a part had not been ordered and our AC still wasn't fixed. That was our very first experience dealing with AHS and I was not happy at all. Then, a couple of months ago, there was an issue with the ice maker in our refrigerator. A piece on there that chopped up the ice broke and the technician said the heating coil went out on it. It was a few days before he first came out because we had an appointment and he was really friendly and knowledgeable. Since the repair, we haven't had any more problems.

All the experiences I have had with American Home Shield have been excellent. I notify either by mail, email or on the phone. Then, that person or entity phoned me immediately and indicated the time that they would be out. They have been out exactly as they said and they resolved every problem I had.
The contractors that they sent have all been excellent, but the most recent one I had was the best of all. He immediately called me and I explained the problem I was having with my dishwasher. He analyzed the problem over the phone based on what I had told him and picked up the part before he came out, indicating that if it was not that problem, he would not charge us for the part. But as it turned out, it was the part that he gave. I would love to have him work on anything that I have. I have already recommended AHS to many people.

I had some leaking pipes under the kitchen sink. I called AHS and they acted quickly, but the plumbing company they referred us to initially did not contact me or return any of my calls until 30 days passed, which gave everything time to dry up. We went back to AHS and they sent us to somebody else that was more prompt. The second contractor got back to us within a matter of days. They were great. We had three different folks from the same company and they were great as far as customer service and being polite. However, they just couldn’t figure out what was wrong until the third person came.
When the first person from the second company came, he could see where there had been damage but he couldn’t see where it was coming from because it had all dried up. After he came, it started back again, which prompted the second person to come out. He was correct in his diagnosis, but we still had a leak after that. What we didn’t know, which the third person told us, was there was residual water down below that hadn't drained out yet.
We freaked out because the second person said it was taken care of, but five days later, it started leaking again. The third person said that it wasn’t really another leak. It was just water had gathered from the second leak and hadn't drained out yet. It had not been cleared, so now that everything has drained out and there had been no more leaks. The very first time we filed a claim to American Home Shield for the microwave, it took a long process. I got over the phone and they sent all information about the service person and the company, and then the company called me a day or so later. A fellow came over to fix the problem but the next day, it broke again. Then they came about two days later and fixed it again, and then later on that day, they tested it and put water to boil. Again, it wasn't working during the night, so I called AHS. They said we had to call General Electric, who was the last company that serviced it. Then the company fixed it, and the microwave has been okay.
I had an issue way back when something happened near the summer and I canceled the policy. So, in the past, I was without the warranty. He fixed it a little so it wouldn’t leak but he said that it needs a new faucet because it was loose. The next time he was supposed to come, I got off work early to make sure I was here. When I got here, he was here and he was acting really nice. He told me that I had to call American Home Shield and they had to re-schedule because I needed a faucet because the old one was not good.
So I called AHS and they set up an appointment. After I called and told the lady that I didn’t want that guy to come back because he was really rude, they still sent him. When my toilet wasn't working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I prefer calling over the phone and it's easy because I've been with them for 14 years. However, the first 10 years were difficult. For instance, if something went wrong with your water heater, they would tell you that it was not insured because it's a piece over or an inch over. Eventually, if you got the right person, they would repair the whole thing. But with all the complaints, they've cleaned up their act and things are different now. Nowadays, they don’t put out so many questions. They just do what they have to do and what is expected.
Most of the contractors that come here are good. They were good this last time and the time before that. AHS has sent Sears and Sheryl, and they were always good. It depends on the person that they send and not the contracting firm. Some contracting firms have come here to do the work and it was a disappointment, and the same firm would send someone else and it would be great. Overall AHS has done everything I've asked, even though they didn't at first.

When I call American Home Shield's 1800 number, it’s 30 minutes of waiting so I usually file claims online as it’s easier that way. I understand that the computers are replacing people but there are certain things you have to talk to people about. And hold times are horrible in all aspects. But I felt very good with all the contractors that American Home Shield sent out. When we had an AC unit problem, it was handled within 30 minutes.
We've had problems multiple times on multiple things and on some occasion, there was a disconnect between the contractor and American Home Shield. I had two previous claims for my washing machine and my dryer, which they ultimately replaced. The problem with a large appliance situation is that they always want to replace the part that wasn't working. On the dryer, it was the control board and it was the leaking drum for the washer. With the washer, they replaced it right away because anytime you have a leaking washer and a leaking drum, you just remove the old drum out and put a new one in it. It’s integral to the washer. They gave us a price quote on the washer and we took it. We bought a new washer and we were happy.
As for the dryer, we had to hang our clothes up for three weeks because they wanted to try a new control board out. We had to wait for a week for the new control board, but then the new control board had a second control board that the guy didn’t order since they wanted to do it one at a time. When the second control board needed to be ordered, they told us to just go ahead and get a new dryer. But the people American Home Shield contracted were very nice. They did it on a Thursday but then it took them until Monday, which upset my wife because it was four more days that she had to hang the laundry up.
I know American Home Shield does a lot of neat stuff. They text me when the guy is on his way. I can tap a link and I can see that he’s on his way and I can see that he's five or ten minutes away. It’s helpful because I don’t have to be at home all day. I can be at work and get home within 15 minutes to meet them. But sometimes there's a disconnect between American Home Shield and their contractors and the part doesn’t get ordered, which puts more stress on the customer. In order to get a replacement quote or to get somebody, you don’t call the 1800 number, which tends to get answered more quickly. But you have to go to the appliance replacement department, where the hold times are anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. It is just horrible.
Moreover, you get inconsistency of service there. You get somebody that says, “Go buy a new one. We’ll send you a link that says we can offer you these following washing machines and the price range of what we’re offering you. You can buy it from there or you can buy your own. If you buy your own just submit the bill. We will pay only up until the approved amount.” Then sometimes they would give you an email address where you can send it in. But sometimes they say that you have to call back. And when you call back there’s another 45-minute hold. Their appliance replacement department needs help.

AHS should screen the people who they work with more carefully because we've had a couple of instances in the past where we'd get a little scared that whoever is going to come out will be crazy. A few years ago, there was a person who came when we had a plumbing call. He couldn't fix the problem so he told us that he'd come back. However, he didn't. We had to call AHS again, and they had to get somebody else to come out. Then, that person ordered parts but it never got to us. We had to pay the $75 fee again to have someone else come out and yet that person didn't have the ordered parts. So, it drew out the process.
Then, we had something similar happen again. We had this outstanding order for someone to come out, but nobody was actually set to come out because the first person had cancelled. My husband had to call the company back and say, "Can you please send somebody out because nobody is coming." And they were like, "Oh! We thought there was." And we said, "No. They had called us and said they are not coming out and they wouldn't be able to for another week or two.” It was far out so my husband told them that we'd call AHS and ask them to send a different company. My husband had to call several times. It was irritating trying to get somebody to come out here.
But this last time was wonderful. Our furnace wasn't coming on so I called AHS and submitted a claim. It didn't take me long to get through to someone, but they had a little trouble locating someone in our area who was able to come out so I hung up and they looked for someone. Then, they called us back and told us that they were still looking for someone. So, there was a little bit of a process trying to find someone to actually service our area. They then sent someone from Frontpoint out and he was extremely professional and personable. He was quick, but you could tell he was making sure he was thorough. Also, he put covers on his shoes and he continued to take them and put them back on when he had to go back and forth to his truck a couple of times.
It is definitely worth having a home warranty but at the same time, you may sometimes feel like you're paying into it a lot and you're rarely needing to call, or that things aren't really covered that you would want them to be covered. But when that one big thing goes, like your AC or furnace, it's really nice to have somebody who is able, on a pretty quick turnaround, to get somebody out to help you.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. My wife canceled and then I resubmitted it online and she canceled again because she thought that order was a little confusing. She then called back and got it submitted. She had to call back four times. When I went online, I put that the garbage disposal and the faucets were not functioning correctly or it was a clogging in the sink.
The technician was fine and everything has been good since the repair. However, they did not fix the sink. The faucet was not working correctly and they sent out a separate order for that when they were already here, and they could have fixed that. That was not very satisfying, but the experience was extremely speedy. American Home Shield is fine except for some of the people that come out. Lately, it has been a good hit, but once in a blue moon we get a miss, and I would not use those Plumbers Bishops again for sure.
I understand your concerns with the online miscommunication to place the work order and have your garbage disposal an faucet repaired. I would be glad to follow up with you to endure that everything has been repaired.

A friend of mine at work told me about American Home Shield. I’m single and a teacher. I don’t make a lot of money and I don’t know how to get these home repairs done. So one Saturday morning I was in bed with my iPad and I looked up all the information on American Home Shield and got the warranty. The money comes directly from my account so I don’t have to worry about mailing them a check.
I had insulation put in my home and I had a guy over to inspect it. And I didn’t realize I was having problems with my water heater system as I never really go into that room but during the inspection the guy noticed my water heater was leaking bad. He said one of the valves was going out. So I went in to check and sure enough it was. I looked at my American Home Shield plan and I saw where it covers my water heater. So I called them and they immediately got me connected with a plumber. There was no layover time. The plumber called and set up a time and date and came out and looked at it. They said that they don’t normally replace valves. I really needed a new water heater so they got me one.
I love American Home Shield. They were so speedy and I didn’t have to miss any work. I have a retired neighbor and he was able to let the contractors in. They came and did the work. I left a check for them on the kitchen table because there were some parts that American Home Shield didn’t really cover. But it was nothing compared to what I would have been out of without American Home Shield. Everything was taken care of and cleaned up. It was awesome. They were so consistent and reliable. I would recommend American Home Shield. I’ve got two people who have signed on since I’ve been on.

I've had American Home Shield for three years now and I’ve had them for a couple of my properties. It’s easy to make a claim. I go online to do it and I get charged upfront. I like the fact that I can make my claims online without talking to anybody. Trying to get in contact with them via the phone is a nightmare. You can be on the line for hours, trying to get a live person to talk to about an issue. That’s the biggest thing.
Another issue is the contractors that come out. The quality of the people that they send out sometimes are not up to par. They may come out but they may not necessarily have the expertise to do what I need to be done. It’s about getting the job done correctly. Some of the other ones that I’ve had do come back and it’s always for the same thing. But I had a couple issues where they sent two different companies out. Right now, the issue with the dryer in my home is still ongoing. The guy has to come back because it is not repaired. Not all of the experiences I've had with AHS have been bad though. It’s just one or two of them that I’ve had issues with. Still, AHS is better than the other ones. I've seen worse companies that are in the same business.

Our claim for the washing machine went really smooth. My husband submitted it to American Home Shield online and a good contractor came. At first, he said that he couldn’t see any trouble with the washing machine but I kept telling him that it would give an LE error every time we wash two loads of laundry. He then said he would replace the motor. And since then, we haven’t had a problem yet. We’re very happy. I'd recommend you go get American Home Shield warranty.

The ice maker in our fridge wasn't working and so we had to go and buy ice. We were just buying bottled water instead because it was a lot easier than buying ice every time we needed it. Also, our microwave was making a motor noise. I filed a single claim for those issues online through American Home Shield and the experience was really good. The contractor came out right away. He was very nice and he said that if we needed anything further, he was going to submit all the information to AHS. They can bridge the gap if we needed anything. It was really nice to have someone that was willing to be helpful if we needed more assistance. We had both of the items replaced. AHS is a great resource for people that don't have a lot of liquid funds. They do a great job of replacing any appliances or mechanicals that may need to be replaced.

The American Home Shield reps were fine and very nice and I thought I was going to get a free water heater but it turns out it was one of those things that wasn’t. The contractors had to come back to repair it and I got charged twice for the call. They had to put a reserve tank on because it’s a 64-gallon tank in this house. It’s a big house and it has one water heater. The biggest tank they could get was a 50-gallon tank. American Home Shield provided us with a reserve tank but it cost a couple hundred dollars to get that done and put back in. So, it turned out to be expensive. But sometimes insurance is that way. AHS did a good job. When I bought the policy, it was supposed to cover everything and they’re being replaced free. But over the 17 years that I’ve had it, they keep giving less and less service but I’m still paying more and more for the process.

My furnace was blowing air and not warm. I submitted the claim online because I was on hold for about 30 minutes on the phone and I was at work at the time, so I didn't have time to sit there. The online thing was okay. However, there were a lot of times when some of the options don't seem to quite fit right well enough. And then, trying to call in and get somebody on the phone was impossible, so it makes it frustrating at times.
A technician arrived within a day or two. It was during the cold stretch here, so they were busy. And they ended up having to send three different ones because there were so many issues that they had to come and address and they had to order parts. But all three of the techs were nice. The second one was not that great, but the first and third were phenomenal. Since the repair of the furnace, it has been perfect and spot-on great. I'm incredibly happy with the outcome. We have it on a program anyway, so it's been running off the program or the way we've had it always.

I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield and it was really easy. I put in that the washing machine wasn't working and a couple of hours later, someone contacted me from Sears. They set an appointment and three days later, a repair person came out. He did what he needed to do and said he had to go get some parts. He left, got the parts, and came back to fix the problem. He fixed the washing machine on the same day. My experience with AHS was great. It was as advertised and they did what they said they would do.

It was a pretty simple repair and I'm confident that everything is fine. I've had American Home Shield before on properties I've sold and bought, but this is the first time I've come to use them. It was seamless and great.

I explained to her my issues of it taking 2 weeks to get my dryer repaired and then it having to be repaired again (for different issue) but having to pay $75 for each service call. These calls were just over 60 days apart. She apologized for it taking two weeks to repair the dryer back in January and said two weeks was too long and I should have been given other options. After having to get it repaired again she stated that our relationship (over 17 yrs) earned me a refund on the last service call. So she refunded me $75 for the last call. My refrigerator started showing signs of problems the day after my coverage started. The rep on the phone told me that because I had only been covered a day, “it honestly just looked bad,” insinuating I was lying about this problem. So although the coil and ice maker were shown to have normal wear and tear and be defective, which is covered, they believed it to be a pre existing condition. What?? I asked for an explanation of why they felt it was pre existing based on the technician's report or proof from the technician that it was a pre existing problem.
He merely read the technician's report that only stated that it would not have passed a visual inspection. It looks like a perfectly normal, clean, well maintained and functional appliance. How would a broken ice maker and coil fail a visual inspection? I asked to speak to a supervisor and was denied. I’m floored. I’m a real estate agent and will warn my clients to stay away, as I can see new homeowners encountering this same issue very easily. See photos and explain how one would visually know anything was wrong.

I have been with AHS for years and they would take care of minor, inexpensive problems. However, the one time I had a bigger issue, they sent out 4 companies over 1 year and no one could fix the problem with my washing machine not draining. In the meantime, I had dripping wet clothes that I would have to try to wring by hand then run the dryer 6-7 cycles to dry the clothes. They said I needed to put a larger load in and I explained that this happened whether the load was average or small to no avail. I asked to talk to a supervisor and no one ever called as had been promised. Then when I tried to cancel they said another department had to handle that and no one called. I had to call multiple times to even get my account closed. Also they are horribly understaffed to take claims calls--average wait time was always in excess of 1 hour!

The problem started the same day that I called American Home Shield. It was my AC. I live in Florida so when the AC goes out, I call right away. And because it was a weekend I had to pay an additional $150 more than the normal fee of $75 which was the only thing that I didn't like. The contractor was very nice. He was very informative. He came out and fixed it and did a great job. He said that the AC looks great. I needed Freon so I had to buy it. And he said that it was under warranty for 60 days. If anything else is wrong in the next 60 days, I can call and then, it will be under the same claim. My AC is wonderful since the repair. It keeps me cool.
My friend is buying a house. I told her that when they decide to buy a house, without a doubt, they need to get the Home Shield. Although there is a copay it at least gives a reassurance from a homeowner perspective that if something big goes wrong that they can't really budget for, they have American Home Shield. It's like a protection. It doesn't pay all claims but it pays the majority.

I used to have American Home Shield in my old house and I had them for about three years. We lapsed on the service and then now with the new house, we've had them for about a year. It's a good service and we're happy with it. When I had a pipe leak, the plumber came in and fixed it. He had to do some cutting into a beam and American Home Shield said they didn't cover that but they covered the pipe leak, which was fine.
On the other hand, I have a cooktop that American Home Shield denied the claim on because the contractor they sent said that it looked like something fell on it. I told him nothing fell on it. A cold thing touched it after something had been cooking on it and that cracked the glass on top. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they can send somebody out but if they don't agree then I'll get charged again. I would be out almost $260 if they don't agree with the claim which was ridiculous. The repair's a thousand dollars and them bringing somebody else to look at it is already a quarter of what it would cost for the repair.
American Home Shield's reps are very helpful but it takes so long to get through to anybody. The last two claims weren't that bad but before that, every single time I called took about anywhere from half an hour to an hour just to get through to customer service. It's good that you can do it online though. Other than that, they're pretty good. The contractors they have sent were very good as well. Other than the guy who dealt with the claim on the stovetop, everybody else has been fantastic. They called before they came and they were very professional.

I got American Home Shield for my old home. A family friend told me about it and I put the plan into place later in November. Recently, there was a cracked pipe in the wall and it was leaking. It took a couple of weeks though to open this claim. The communication was bad. They’re very courteous people but to explain what we wanted and what we needed, it was not following through. We get off the phone explaining everything from A to Z and these service vendors are still showing up with no idea.
The first service provider for this plumbing issue misdiagnosed the problem and the issue wasn’t covered. Luckily, AHS said that they can send somebody else out and give it another assessment. The second plumbing company assessed it correctly and we were able to get it fixed. But now we’re still waiting for a contractor to come and patch up the wall. That’s why it has taken another month. And it’s in my three month-year-old baby’s room. It’s where they had to cut into the wall.
They took care of it but it took a month. It was leaking into my basement for a month. After multiple calls between myself and my fiancée, we finally got the right plumbers to come out, got it assessed properly and got it fixed. I’ve learned that after we get this work AHS should’ve dispatched us to call the service vendor and explain the situation because the communication is getting lost between that connection, the middleman between us, the customer and the service provider.
We had two plumbers come out who said that they’ll be back but they never came back. AHS said that these plumbers were the only two choices. So, it’s limited. I’m in Central New Jersey. It’s a populated tri-state area. We got New York 15 minutes away and Philadelphia is just a passable area. So, it would be better if there’re a little more available service providers to help us out. AHS is great at covering the claim. I’m still going to renew my contract next year but it’s a little bit of a lag trying to get this work completed. I recommend it to everybody but I just wish it was better.

However, since we were not always here, we did not get to deal with it until February. The electrician who came was awesome, wonderful, and very polite. Moreover, he turned up on time. He was very patient with us and explained how the whole wiring system worked and why it had been done that way. He explained to us that the switch that controls them was actually downstairs. Now, we can use those outlets for hair dryers. I would tell friends that AHS is very responsive and the people they send turn up when they say they are going to.

On January 30th, my husband was sent to an emergency, and when we came home that night, the floor of the kitchen was flooded. Thanks to my neighbor, he determined that the flood was coming from the filter canister attached to our InSinkErator hot water dispenser. So, the next day, I called it in and explained to American Home Shield what the problem was and told them that the leak may have come from the hot water dispenser. And because there was so much flooding, I called in my own plumber to determine whether or not the leak was coming from the dishwasher since the dishwasher wouldn’t operate. I waited for about a week and a half, and a very nice plumber from Amazing Plumbing came out. Then he told me that the filter was not covered by AHS. The plumber was so nice that he even looked up a website as to where I could buy a filter and told me how to replace it.
I took care of the problem myself, but I could have avoided waiting all of that time had the person on the phone indicated from the get-go that the filter was not covered. So I was not at all happy. Also, it takes a very long time for AHS to get somebody to come out. Years ago, when I first subscribed, AHS used to advertise that they would have somebody able to assist me in 24 or 48 hours. And now, it takes a week or a week and a half. They have to send somebody out to assess what the problem is, and I’m talking about other experiences because I have had quite a few with AHS over the years. And then, they would order the part and we’d have to wait for that. Once the part came in, then I could make an appointment which would cause more time to wait. The last issue I had was my dishwasher, and it took a total of three weeks which was not helpful. I’m even thinking of switching to another company.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the leaks and plumbing issue repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

The people from Cirrus were crazy rude, which was really annoying. But the people at American Home Shield were fantastic. They were the only shining light in it. They were nice and were really free. They found another person that could come and he seemed okay. He quickly diagnosed how expensive the repair would be. So we had an oven replacement. We ordered it through AHS and they gave me an option to choose from because the oven that I had previously was not a current model.
There were two-phases to getting the oven. There was a person who literally just came and dropped the oven off and he was gonna leave it on the porch. And I had to ask him to bring the oven in. I also asked him if he could install it and he said that there was someone else who would do it. Then I asked if their company install ovens, and he said that they could but I was not signed up for it. So we had an oven sitting in our kitchen in a box for about a week and a half. I had an issue with my refrigerator and American Home Shield gave me a company that did not service this area and I couldn’t get a hold of. I had to call AHS and then they changed it to another company which was called Bay to Bay. They sent out one of their troubleshooters and he said it was one part. They ordered it, they got the part in, and they sent a kid that had to read directions on how to put things in. Then he said the refrigerator was working, but it didn’t cool down. He said in about 15 hours it would get cold, but I put ice packs in the freezer and in 12 hours, they weren’t even frozen. So, I called back AHS and they sent out the same troubleshooter again who had a hissy fit because there was stuff off the side of the refrigerator that he had to pull the refrigerator straight out but knocked everything down. He was yelling and screaming, "I can't work like this.”
Then all of a sudden, he said that it was all these motors that went and he asked why they didn’t detect that from the beginning. He said there were bugs in the refrigerator, but I don’t have bugs. The kid that put it in screwed it up, and AHS did not want to cover it so I canceled AHS two weeks ago. If AHS was going to send me people that do shoddy work and aren’t capable of doing the work, then I don’t need AHS as a company. I've asked AHS to send me the money for those two months that I was dealing with this company that they kept sending out, and AHS has not done that yet. I was very dissatisfied with AHS and I would never use them again even it was free.

We joined American Home Shield a couple of months ago and it has been fine. But before we had them, I would Google somebody and call them to get here. When they get here, they’d see if they needed to order a part and two days later, they’d call me right back to schedule. With AHS, we had one different company come out and fix our washer and that was fine. Although I find it really annoying that whoever AHS have an agreement with took forever to get the parts. It was like seven to ten days for them to get the part then they called me and I asked them when are they coming. They told me they’d be here sometime next week. It was spanning three weeks to do one repair, which was really cumbersome when I didn’t have a working washing machine.
They kept sending the same guy but this guy can’t do my oven or the ice maker because he has a bad back. The guy also told me that he has never fixed one of those and he’ll just order me a new icemaker. It took two weeks for the part to come in and him to come back. He puts it in and told me that it should work. And if it in 24 hours it doesn’t make any ice, then I’ll have to call them back. He didn’t know what he was doing. He was supposed to come today between 10:00 and 1:00 to hopefully fix the icemaker. The contractor gives me the weirdest windows and I keep telling them that I have kids that I have to drop off and pick up at school and I have work also.
I didn’t have time for them every week to either come out and look or to bring the part and repair it. I asked the contractor why can’t they send someone who knows. The technician told me with his own mouth that, “I’ve never worked on one of these Frigidaire Gallery icemakers. So, we’ll just get that part and that should do it.” He can’t be the only guy working at the company so it shouldn’t be my problem. This guy has come in and out of my house five times in seven weeks. It is the most inefficient repairs I have ever seen.
I went through American Home Shield, did my little ticket online and asked why can’t I have somebody that knows how to actually fix the appliance one time. It’s not complicated when I go online but I’m very disappointed in the people AHS is sending out. And nobody from AHS is contacting me to follow up or say, “Hey, we sent out this contractor and this is supposed to get repaired. We see your ticket is still open, it has been eight weeks.” They must have a turnaround time tracking going on that say how long has the ticket been open and to ask if they need to get me a different contractor. So I have not been very pleased with the follow through. My parents have Sears and they do appliances and I’m thinking very strongly of switching to them next year because their quality of service has been so much better.

My wife told him that we've had an electrical problem before in the same area with the dishwasher to give him a heads up that it might be an electrical problem, but he didn’t even look at it. He said, "Your garbage disposal is old and rusty, so it’s a pre-existing problem. You need to replace the garbage disposal." He also told us that the corporate office told him that if the issue is a pre-existing one, he could do nothing. He also didn't fix the drain issue. AHS denied the claim and everyone I talked to kept trying to deny me. They also sent me a letter trying to explain what's not covered.
I then had to have a plumber come out. I got a new garbage disposal for $300 and he installed it. However, it still wouldn’t work. That's why he said it was an electrical problem. Then, what he did was he plugged up the old garbage disposal in the same extension cord and it worked. AHS charged me a service fee and they told me that they couldn’t give me my money back because the contractor had already installed the new unit. I called back after they denied my claim and after the plumber had gone and they sent out an electrical technician to fix the electrical problem. They didn’t charge me for it. But if the guy who first came out had just checked, he would have found it was an electrical problem and could have gotten somebody out here to fix it. I had to pay the company they sent $650 to put a new zone panel so that the heat goes to different parts of the home at different times instead of all at the same time. I asked them to fix it where I didn't have to have the zone panels.
The owner of the business called me and said that they won't do that. They pushed me to pay them to repair it. They installed it, but it still doesn't work. We scheduled then they came out and looked at it and had to order the parts. I had to wait probably another week or so for the part to come in and the gentleman came and installed it when it came in. He explained to me what he was doing and showed me exactly what the problem was, and shared with me how really it was a sensor and it doesn't work when it gets coated with guck. So, he then put a new part in there and we had no problems after that.
One of the things I've noticed about American Home Shield is that they seem to go with the smaller company, like a mom and pop shop. So, sometimes I get a one person deal and I may have to wait a little bit depending on how busy they are. Then I get the guy to drive up in my driveway with no insignia on the side of the truck because they're a small company. And that's an issue I have.

I called American Home Shield a couple of months ago about my dryer. Their rep asked for my contract number, told me Digital Warrior will be going to come out and check it and it was going to cost me $75 for Digital Warrior to come out. Digital Warrior came out and their guy checked it. He said that they were trying to get certain parts for my dryer, but my dryer was outdated. He said he have to contact American Home Shield and let them know. About a week later, American Home Shield sent me an email stating the dryers they had and what they recommended. I chose what I wanted and let them know. Then they called me and told me that the person would be here at such time and the people they contacted called me.
The interaction I had with their contractor was excellent. They were helpful and nice. The dryer has been great since then and I love it. There's a little light inside it so we can see what's in there and that's what we like the most. It's just nice and we enjoy it. American Home Shield was very professional. They let me know right away the contractor that would come out. I recommended it to my sister who lives in Tucson, Arizona and I told her that we've been with American Home Shield for years.

We had the house rekeyed when we moved in, so I called and set it up with American Home Shield. The reps were friendly and professional and they were able to help me out fairly quickly. It was within a week of us calling that the local contractor had called and set up an appointment and then came out to actually do the work. The contractor was very quick and efficient. He's a locksmith and he knew exactly what he needed to do. He made sure that not only were the locks rekeyed but also the door locks themselves were in proper working order. And that required him to pull some of them apart and work them. He was above my expectation on the work he performed.
I've very little experience with American Home Shield and that one experience with the locksmith was very positive. It's reassuring to know that I have the warranty if I need it, but I hope I don't need to call American Home Shield again. I've never dealt with a home warranty before and they knew exactly what needed to be done and they were on top of it. I definitely appreciated having someone like that that I could call and that I knew I could count on. American Home Shield made my experience easy.

I’m extremely glad having a warranty for our home and our experience with American Home Shield has been great. Navigating their website was easy and my most recent claims, I sent them online. I sent two claims at the same time, one for plumbing and one for dishwasher issues. The technician came out quickly. With the dishwasher, however, it was over a month before I got it fixed. It was because of the company that American Home Shield selected to do the work. They had to call the company back. I called American Home Shield and in about two days I have the part installed, and then everything was perfect since.

My washing machine was making noise and it was leaking water. American Home Shield sent a guy out and he said it was fixed. He was the nastiest person I've ever met in my life. When he finished, he turned it on and it was still making a lot of noise. So I said, "No. It's not fixed. It's still making a lot of noise." He said, "It's fixed. It's fixed." And he walked out and I said, "Excuse me." But he kept walking out. So, I called AHS again and the reps were very nice and understanding. They sent out another guy and he was fairly nice. He said the washer was fixed but when we put one set of sheets in the machine, it still made noise and leaked. So, AHS sent another guy out, who was very sweet, and he said it was fixed but it wasn't fixed because I put a set of sheets in there and it started really leaking and making more noise. And so I called again and they're sending a guy out on Wednesday.

American Home Shield is clear about what they cover and they take care of problems quickly. When our really old furnace went out, I sent American Home Shield the online form then they got ahold of the local contractor who takes care of it and sent them over. The technicians were good and very quick. They put in a new furnace within a couple of days.

I had two claims with American Home Shield and I submitted them over the phone. One was for plumbing and when the tech came, I found out that it was not covered in the warranty. I had a pipe that was not connected to the house but to the foundation and the tech told me that I needed to get a gardener to have it fixed. He said that they could do it but it would cost a lot less if I got a gardener. So he didn't do anything but the kid was nice and $75 was still cheaper than if I were to call the plumber because they would've charged me a hundred and something dollars. My other claim was for my air conditioner and Amen Air came out to take care of it. I paid for both of the services done but there was a mix up in how American Home Shield billed me. I got one bill that I paid a check for and sent it in, then the other one I paid with the credit card which is what I normally do. Other than that, I love them and recommend them to everybody.

There was a problem with my plumbing. When I made a service call-in to AHS, they made me go through their prompt system. I had to tell their system what I was prompted to but it didn’t fall into the guidelines, so they transferred me to a rep. I tried to file my claim online so I told the lady that I got that I was on my third day trying to get through to them and now that I've talked to her, please disregard the online request. She was all upset with me and had such an attitude.
Then, the first plumbing company that AHS assigned to me only services my area once a week on a Wednesday and I missed their cut-off time. And when the appointment day came, they kept stalling. First, they were supposed to be out by 11:00, then it became 1:00, and then it became 4:00. Later, they said they'd be here by 8 or 9 o'clock at night. I told them that was unacceptable, so they asked if they could cancel it for the next day. I spoke to the owner and I was trying to be kind because I talked to her in December. She told me that they just got done with Thanksgiving and were being flooded with calls. I understood that but, at some point, there has to be some accountability.
In the end, I had to wait 10 days before they finally came out and in the meantime, I had to pay my water bill. When they came, they said I had too high of a water pressure and they were adamant that I needed an emergency shut-off valve. So, I called the AHS and asked for a second opinion. When the second plumbing company came out, they said that the pressure was fine and that I should be worried about low pressure. So the first plumbing company misdiagnosed the problem and I had to go to the water company and tell them there was too much pressure.
The second plumbing company also said that no parts were changed but the first plumbing company told me that they changed the rubber seal when they were here. They also didn't change those wearable items so I ended up waiting three weeks for it to be rectified. If the tech they sent out was really a plumber by trade, this would have been an easy fix. But when he was here, he was running around, taking pictures of the faucet, and asking if it was the right part. He was in and out of here within 15 minutes. Compared to that, the guy from the second plumbing company showed up here twice to correct the toilet that kept running and the shower that kept dripping.
These were all part of the same service call but AHS wanted to charge me extra for the second plumber even though the service call was never fulfilled by the first one. They kept sending me emails saying that I owe them money, but when I called, they said that their billing department had to catch up and that it'd take them three days. However, it's been two months now. I called AHS four times about it and asked if I could speak to their billing department. They said they weren’t in that office and that they wouldn't speak to me. I was calling every week then I started calling every three to four days. And now, this could possibly go into a collection account because no one is reading their notes.
I talked to their supervisor and said that their rep, Tiffany, was doing a great job but I wished they could follow through with my billing issue. I called three more times and the last person I got was Tiffany again who said that all the notes were there and to be patient. That was all good but when I called them, the average wait time was 30 minutes to an hour, which was excessive. I was also on hold for two to three hours because their computer was down twice in December. The young lady I got assured me that once their computers came up, I was one of their top priority and she was going to call me back, but I didn't get a callback. So, I'm frustrated and dissatisfied with AHS. They should hire people to be more pleasant and pick up the phone.
I own a second home that’s not with AHS and when I call, within five to 10 minutes, all my issues are resolved and it's effortless. So if this problem doesn't get resolved and I have to pay out-of-pocket, which AHS guaranteed me that I didn't, when my contract comes up, I'm going to go with the other home warranty program. I'm disabled and I've got doctor's appointments. It's not always convenient for me to hold on the line.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We have home warranties in our properties in Nebraska and California. We also have them in our properties in Cape Coral, Florida which we are in the process of selling, and in Pensacola, Florida which we are currently living in. We've had six different home warranty companies over the years and we believe in buying them. Among those companies, American Home Shield is by far the best and we prefer to go with them. But their warranty is not offered in some places. We also went with a different company in Cape Coral because we have a water softener there and American Home Shield doesn't cover water softeners.
When we have a claim, the AHS reps we talk to are usually pretty good. They generally contact Sears and have them prepare to stop by and take a look at the issue. They're very reliable and they stand behind what they said they're going to do. They've done pretty well for us and I would recommend them whether you're buying or selling a property, and if you need to own the property for years. But their service is not standardized across the United States. If I was in a bigger geographical area with a relatively decent population and I had a relatively stable service environment such as technician I'd be good with AHS. I'd get a much better and quicker service than if I lived in a remote area with a smaller population where the likelihood of getting anyone to come out and take care of the issue would be very difficult.
So if I was in a metropolitan area, I'd get somebody to come out in the next day or two. But if I called in for my heater in our Pensacola, Florida property, there'd be somebody out there within a day or so to take a look at it. If it was an absolute emergency, they'd give me the option of contacting someone on my own and pay for it, then they'd reimburse me.
AHS also saved us a lot of money. An air conditioner can be very costly if it goes out and sometimes you need a part that costs 49 cents to have it fixed. At other sometimes, you'll need a $4000 5-ton brand new air conditioner, but you pay the same service call out fee with AHS no matter what. Recently, we had a problem with our Jenn-Air glass cooktop for a stove. Jenn-Air no longer makes that brand and the tech could not get us a replacement for it. I contacted AHS and they told me that they would replace it with a new version. I found the GE Profile that cost $1500 and they ordered it. We're supposed to be getting it sometime in the next seven to 14 days. That would have cost us $1500, but instead, it cost us 75.
Other than that, sometimes it's so hard to communicate with AHS. I don't like calling and getting a voice machine where you have to punch numbers and tell them what the problem is is always irritating. I'd rather speak with a human being. In addition, with almost every other company nowadays, AHS outsources all their first line of connection. When you get someone from the Philippines, Mexico, or India, the first thing they say is "My name is Peggy" or "My name is Brian" and you'd know that's not true. There is also a language barrier issue and the nuances of language which is kind of a drag.
