My sink was leaking and I filed a claim to American Home Shield. When I submit my claims, I either do it online or over the phone. If I call, someone calls me back and if I send a response online, I get a response back in a timely manner. The guy came out and told me that the sink is sitting in wrong. The sink should be on top with the marble but it was down onto the marble which was causing it to sink. I have to ask them to come out, remove my marble countertop and put the sink back in. The home is over three years old, so it's not a contractor job now unless I go to court and sue them because I purchased a home like it is and found out that it's incorrect. So at most, I can come up better by finding a repairman and having them do the repair.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a part of the heater that they didn’t cover under the warranty. Submitting that claim was difficult because the lady rep on the phone couldn’t understand what part of the heater it was that was broken. She just couldn’t comprehend what was going on. The contractor looked at the broken part, took pictures of it, and left. He said he had to go and research it because he didn’t know if it was covered or not. American Home Shield called me back the next day and just left a message. They said it was a part of the heater, but the cable that controls it runs around right into the guts of the heater. It's an electronic filter that goes into the controls of the heater. I wasn’t very satisfied with that. We just left it unrepaired because it was so expensive. Except for this last claim, we've had a great experience with American Home Shield.

My experience with American Home Shield was absolutely horrendous. I sold my home on February 28th and I called AHS on the same date and told them that, and I was closing escrow as well. The gal said, "We'll cancel it March 1st 'cause you don't cancel it until it's closed in case something happens." So, that went along. Everything was fine and then we closed escrow. I ended up paying for the annual renewal for the people who bought the house. About a week ago, I got an overdue notice for $54.12. I called and I tried to explain to somebody that the bill wasn't mine, and I didn't even know why I got an overdue bill because it used to be automatically paid through my bank account.

I spent about 15 minutes with this person who was absolutely clueless. They passed it down to another girl and I started talking to her, and she was absolutely clueless too. I got upset and she said not to yell at her. I wasn't yelling at her. I just wanted somebody to handle this. She said that she would put me on hold for a minute. She did but she never came back on the line. I sat there for 15 minutes and then I finally hung up. This morning, I said to my wife that I couldn't handle it anymore with these people and so, my wife called them. She spent 45 minutes before this got taken care of. She went through four people before the fourth person finally got it. The first three couldn't even speak English and it was horrendous. Their customer service was an absolute joke.

But I had a couple of warranty claims with them when I had the policy and those went fine. I was in my house when they put a new water heater in. Also, I've had two different rental properties with them for a total of 10 years. If it was a warranty issue, it was never an issue. They got the contractor out and everything was handled. But the issue was with the billing. It was something that obviously was screwed up in their computer system and it was so simple, and I went through two reps and my wife went through four to cancel a $54.12 item that was incorrectly billed to us.

There was something wrong with my heating system and I filed a claim for it to American Home Shield by phone. That way I could talk to someone to get the right information to make sure I'm covered for the item. The service was excellent. The contractor set up the appointment, they came out and fixed my heating system. They had to come back out because it wasn’t blowing correctly. The work was done and I'm satisfied. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for our microwave. I did it online and their online site was all right and easy. The contractor was fine. He was clean, very helpful, knowledgeable, and very polite. They were in and out within half an hour. It was a great experience and the appliance has been working great since they’ve been out.

American Home Shield has been a good company, although I wasn’t really happy with the service from the contractor when we had our air conditioner replaced about two years ago. We were doing our roof at that time, and I told the contractor to make sure that when they install the new air conditioner, they do it in a way that the roofer will not have a problem. However, the roofer ended up having a big problem. The air conditioner was mounted on the roof, so there was some extra money I had to pay for another guy to come out to pick up the air conditioner so the roofers can finish their job. The roofers said that they could have mounted it in a different way and it wouldn't have cost any more money to do it that way.

I’ve been an American Home Shield customer for about four years. We've had our refrigerator replaced through them and a few other items worked on, and it's been a great experience other than that. I would recommend them because of the other experiences we've had them. I tell other people that if they have any problem at all, it would cost $75 for the initial visit for the person to come out and take a look at what they have. Maybe they could fix it right then or they could order the part, but that’s all they would pay. If the part has to be replaced, they can upgrade the item or the appliance that they need if they want to by paying an extra fee for that or they will replace up to that. Having a home warranty is good.

Whenever I have an issue, American Home Shield sends their tech out to fix whatever. The reps at American Home Shield get right on it too. As soon as we hang up, the service tech calls me to schedule an appointment. So they all own their job. But last time, the techs had to come out four times to fix my heater. It was very cold then and I had to go a couple of days with no heat because they had to order parts or the techs didn’t fix it right. American Home Shield needs to have more than one service tech for specific tasks. If the person can't come right then, since that was on a weekend, then they should have a backup person who can come, especially when there’s really detrimental weather. Luckily, I had a fireplace and that kept my house warm. Still, that was the first time I had a problem with American Home Shield. Most of it was the tech problem too and not so much of American Home Shield.

Other than that, the techs have been great. When I had a leak in the bathroom, they couldn’t find it but I knew there was a leak somewhere because water was all over the floor and the guy waited outside about an hour but there was no water to be found. Other than that, they’ve fixed plumbing issues before and also a ceiling fan, a garbage disposal and my dryer. I really like American Home Shield and I’ve referred a lot of people to them. They have great service and it really pays for itself. American Home Shield would be great especially for single women and people like me who don't have anybody to come fix stuff for them.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield for the garbage disposal and when I went online to try to set things up, they didn’t have all the choices that I needed. They didn’t have a garbage disposal and I had to say it was a stoppage. And if you try to call directly, it's a 45-minute wait. Furthermore, I have a dispute with AHS. I have a $75 supposedly overdue account but it was not. They sent somebody out to fix something but they couldn't fix it and they said they’d come back and fix it once I got the electrical done. I got the electrical done and they sent someone else out from a different company and they said, “Well, we're not going to touch this.” Then, they got another electric company to come fix the garbage disposal that originally had it, but I got charged with $75 again.

Our AC unit stopped working and the AHS site was pretty easy, straightforward and self-explanatory when I made the claim. Their contractor called a few minutes before he arrived and so did the company the day before and told us around what time to expect him. The contractor said he would be here around a certain time and he arrived pretty quickly. He was very professional. He took a look at the problem and kind of explained to us why we were having a problem with the AC which I thought was pretty neat. He then fixed it within less than an hour and the AC has been pretty good since. The professionals that American Home Shield chose to come out here were very friendly and responsive so we were really happy with both them and American Home Shield. It's definitely worth having AHS because I only pay the $75 for somebody to come out as opposed to having to replace the whole unit by myself.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for the electrical components that make our garage door work. Their representatives got back to me immediately saying that they had someone look after it who contacted us within a reasonable amount of time. In less than 24 hours, there was somebody here. The service was done very professionally and the contractor repaired my garage door the first day that he came. He said that if there would be any complications of any kind, I should contact American Home Shield and AHS would have them come back because there was a time limit. It so happened that the problem reoccured. So, I called and AHS and the contractor acted as promptly as they did the first time and everything became fine.

However, we had another experience with our dishwasher. American Home Shield responded promptly as they do and arranged for a company to come and look at it. That company was supposed to arrive on a specific date and time but they never showed up. I contacted them and I couldn't get anyone. After two or three attempts, I got back to American Home Shield and they contacted the company also and said that they were very rude to them and that AHS would never recommend that company again.

In the meantime, we had a couple of weeks pass by. We were trying to be patient assuming somebody was going to come. So, I was talking to American Home Shield and saying that all that time was ridiculous and that I could have already bought a new one. We ended up buying one and AHS reimbursed us for the majority of the cost of the new dishwasher. So, the problem with the dishwasher was still satisfactorily resolved. AHS said that the company they contacted was the only one in the area that they contracted for that product. So, I told AHS that I've lived in my town for 20 years and as a pastor of a church here I know of some people who come to our church who have a business that repairs dishwashers. I told AHS that those people were more than capable of taking care of such a problem. There were more people in our area who could have taken care of the problem. It was just that AHS wasn't aware of who they were. Still, AHS has been very cooperative. I'm very satisfied and I would recommend them.

My washing machine has been broken since February 28. I'm thankful I had a spare washing machine to use. I made a claim with American Home Shield for the washing machine. I called them and left a message over the weekend. They returned my call on that Monday and the service tech was out here on Tuesday. The representatives that they send are very knowledgeable, very nice and very polite. The technician came to evaluate the situation. He looked at the washing machine, explained what was going on and how the process would work, that he would submit the request for the part to be ordered. He said that once the part came to them, someone would be back to install the part. He explained everything quite well.

They put the part in but it still did not work. And after more than a week, I was told that after they took the part in, the technician would notify AHS that the part did not work and that the machine was non-reparable. And that within 24 to 48 hours, I should hear from AHS as to what they will do, either replacing or whatever their process would be. After over a week, I had not heard from AHS at all. I contacted them a couple of times, and then finally social media came into play and I voiced how I was upset. It has been over a week and I still didn't know what was going on. Within a short period of time, I got a message back asking me to please private message them on Facebook, which I did. Within two hours I had an email and a phone call explaining what the process was and what they were willing to do.

So, it took a little bit of poor publicity on social media, and then they got their act and gear. It took over 10 days to get any type of response. They made me a cash offer and offered me a replacement unit, which is a brand that I'm not pleased with and I would prefer to go with something else. So, I'm waiting for a call back from them now to give me pricing and two other options before I make my decision. AHS is very good at getting someone out here but their problem is lack of communication. They need to work on their time frame. If they tell me that they’re going to contact me within 24 to 48 hours, they need to do that. 10 days to respond is not acceptable.

The furnace wasn't working and had to be put in the box. I contacted American Home Shield over the phone to submit a claim for it, and the process was simple. While it has not always been the case, getting hold of a rep was easy that time. The representatives ask questions and they're pleasant and very knowledgeable. The contractors who came were professional and explained everything they had to do. Then somebody had to come back for the parts, so the repair took about 4 days overall, which was too many days. But the weekend was in some of those days too and they don't do anything on weekends. I'm glad it wasn't too cold. Still, they were the best contractors I've seen in a long time.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 10 years now and I haven't had great experience with some of the people they sent. They don't do as much as they used to when I first applied years ago, where they'd actually be able to fix something when they're there or they don't say that they don't do things like crawling under the floor. So I have even said that I've already told them what was wrong so why did they come then I have to pay a 100 bucks. But the last time was good, so it's fine. And I'm satisfied.

We had an HVAC claim several years ago in my mother’s home and I was extremely dissatisfied with the people from Myers Comfort Specialist that came out to service the unit. It was terrible and as I began to research them, it was astounding to see the number of negative reviews just strictly through Google reviews and even on the American Home Shield’s website. We fully understood that we have to pay for a refrigerant, but when the guy finally got there, it was dark and raining.

The guy was out in the dark and in the rain and supposedly fixed the problem. My mother paid about $300 for a refrigerant. Lo and behold, not more than just a couple of months later, we had a problem again. All the refrigerant that my mother had paid for had leaked out. This company tried to claim we were outside of the warranty of the work they did by one day and that it wasn’t really what the problem was when they came out before. They ended up fixing it for my mom and charging her for another $400 for the refrigerant.

I wrote a letter to the owner of Myers Comfort Specialist and he never responded. They totally ripped my mother off. I was really unhappy. Now, when the HVAC problem came up again, American Home Shield assigned Myers Comfort Specialist again. I got calls from American Home Shield twice, but I refused to have them. By really putting my foot down on it, American Home Shield found another person for me and he was wonderful. He was really good. I also had American Home Shield on my previous home and we always had good experiences with the people that were sent out. We never really had a bad deal, just that one company. American Home Shield just needs to monitor reviews on the companies that they’re contracting to work for them because Myers Comfort Specialist should not be doing business with them. They were totally unprofessional and giving American Home Shield a really bad name.

I live in a condo by myself and I've been with American Home Shield for a while. It’s $75 and I pay 40 some dollars a month. It’s not cheap but the warranty gives me peace of mind knowing that I can call and get somebody right away and get something fixed. It's well worth it. I usually call them when I have a claim though I sometimes I go online. After that, they assign somebody, and they call me pretty quick.

When I filed a claim for my dryer, the first technician that came out didn't know what he was doing. I gave him $75 and he cleaned it out but it still made a loud noise. I lived with a loud noise for a few months. They said that they'd give me six months and if it breaks down, I wouldn’t have to pay again. I called AHS back a little over six months, so I paid again. This time, they sent this guy from Magic Appliance. He said it was a problem with the blower and that he’d get me the part. He came the next day, put it in, and it ran like a charm. The dryer is quiet now and it works. I told him that I loved it and when I had another issue, I asked AHS to send Magic Appliance again because I was satisfied with them. I knew that AHS picks the contractors randomly but when their rep said she'd do it for me. So that was very nice.

I also had an issue with my microwave. It's 24 years old and it is built in. All of a sudden, when I put something in there, it made a noise and it wouldn't heat. It scared the hell out of me because microwaves are scary and I heard stories. The technician came and said that he had to get the part but since it was an old microwave, he didn’t know if he could get it. I told the guy that if he couldn’t fix it then I didn’t know if it was worth it and that he had to come back. When he did, he came with another guy who was the one that previously fixed my dryer with whom I was very pleased with. The guys fooled around for 45 minutes then they pulled the microwave out and took it with them last week.

I trust them and if they couldn't fix it, then I know it couldn't be fixed. I told the guys that I knew how they operate and that they were going to fix it if they could. I also told them that I didn’t want to have a microwave that would give me trouble later or that would be dangerous. The guy said that they'd fix it if they could but if they couldn't fix it, they’d get me a new one. And if I didn’t like it, they’d send me some money and I could do what I want. So far, I haven't heard back from them.

The technicians that AHS sent out varies and I haven't had a problem with any of them other than that one technician that didn't know what he was doing with my dryer. But he tried awfully hard. I told my friends about AHS and that they should have it because larger appliances could break down. Hopefully, they’re going to get some action. The lady who lives above me had them, too, and she said that she was glad I recommended it. But she said that AHS gave her a bad time when her air conditioning went down.

We've only had two claims from American Home Shield and the most recent one was the dishwasher. We thought it was leaking but we had an issue where the top rack was broken so that needed to be replaced. It turned out that it wasn't a leak but something that must have been obstructing it while we were using it. But we still needed the other thing fixed too. So, when they came out, they checked both things. They fixed one and there was no leak on the other. When we submitted the claim online, it was simple. We went to the online portal that they have and we picked out the issue and the brand of the dishwasher. Then, they send you a text and the contractor contacts you by phone so, it's painless and it was all automatic. In the previous case that we had, we called and spoke to someone because of the scheduling issue.

Both times, the contractors were great. They usually will call you and then let you text them back if there's a rescheduling issue. But no issues at all on either one. Their work was good and I have no complaints about it. We can use the top rack on our dishwasher now. The problems were resolved so we haven't had any issues since. It's a smooth process and if you need to get a hold of them, they're there to pick up the phone but they try to automate everything through text messages

I bought the house in 2002 and the American Home Shield policy came with it. I’ve never let it lapse since then so I've had them for 16 years now and I like having them. Averaging the daily cost for the policy, I would probably do better to save my money and save up for repairs. But I like the peace of mind that comes with having it. I could just go online and tell them to fix something for me.

My recent claim was for the washer. Although it was running through the regular cycle, it didn’t spin on the same cycle. So I submitted a claim online. It was very straightforward but it took the fellow quite a while to come and fix the issue. It was close to a week and then they had to order parts. That was another week before they could come back out again. Nevertheless, the contractor was very thorough and the washer is doing great now.

But we have a preferred company to use if ever we had to do an AC work and if we submit the claim online, AHS will just assign it to whoever is next in line. Other than that, everything went well and I had recommended American Home Shield.

We were seeing leakage in our refrigerator all the time and it was looked at three times. It was connected to the ice maker and at times, it was leaking a lot more. A few minutes, it would freeze over. The water was in the back of the refrigerator area and the freezer is like a drawer at the bottom. It froze in the back and was hard to close the freezer. That was the first time that we had somebody sent by AHS out here. The second time, my husband knew what they did, but the refrigerator froze over again so he ended up taking care of it. And then, we called somebody for that. But when it continued leaking, we had somebody else in the house to look again. We continued having problems up until this last time that the guy took care of it and replaced the part. There's still some leakage but it's not anything like it was before and it’s a lot better.

The representative from American Home Shield was really thorough as far as asking questions. She was also friendly and professional. Also, the repairmen who came were all good. They did their work really quick, especially with the flash dryer. When I had a guy come the first time in May for the burner in our oven, he replaced the burner and he was really good. They had to order the part and he came back and replaced it. Overall, it's been a good experience with American Home Shield. It took a long time to get the parts on the refrigerator, but as far as when I called in, either that same day or the next day, I had somebody on the phone making an appointment to come out. They were really quick to respond and that stood out to me.

The whole HVAC system was replaced back in May and I had a continual problem with it. I had three or four service calls to get that corrected. Several contractors couldn’t find the problem. I just had a contractor out here about three weeks ago and hopefully, we resolved it. So right now, this is the second or third circuit breaker that’s been replaced. And the contractor who came before put in what appears to have been a used circuit breaker. So the quality of the service sometimes is questionable.

My experience in contacting anybody has been terrible too. Typically, when you call their usual 800 number, anytime of day or night, you get a recording that says they’re experiencing higher than usual call volumes and there’s going to be extended wait periods. And it has been a few months since I’ve done that. And I’ve waited on the line for over 30 minutes on occasion.

As a result, I did some research and found some corporate phone numbers for the corporate headquarters. And even with them, when I called and left messages, it took a considerable amount of time for somebody to get in touch with me. One of the folks in the corporate office, a year ago, when I expressed my concern about wait times and how frustrating that was, told me that they’re working on it and they’re aware of it. But as of six or four months ago when I tried again, they were maybe aware of it but they didn’t seem to be doing anything about it. And in the last time that happened, I left two or three messages and the last message I left included the fact that I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau again if I didn’t hear from anybody. Then lo and behold, I got a call back. At that point, it was helpful because I was able to get a contractor out here.

The contractors were generally pleasant. But they’re generally small mom and pop companies that pull in in these old vehicles with magnets on the sides of the vehicles, instead of more professional looking companies or contractors that have real vans, that are painted, and have the name on it, and you might happen to have heard of. It just seems like they get these little fly-by-night companies.

But I'm still with AHS. When ultimately the service is done, much of the time, it’s been satisfactory and it has saved me some money. I’m also paying for a contract for my niece. I would caution them though about the fact that it’s very difficult to get in touch over the phone. Now, I realize that you can go on the website for service and that certainly what I will do if there’s a completely different issue.

I’ve used American Home Shield three times and recently, I submitted a claim online. It took five days before they could come out which was not good. The refrigerator’s contact or switch inside malfunctioned and fortunately, I had another fridge that we were able to use so that helped. The guy came out and he was able to diagnose it in 15 minutes and fixed it. For the dryer, he replaced a part in the back and it’s still working fine.

A couple of years ago, we had some issues with the air conditioner in the house and they came out and fixed it. The price point is $45 to $50 a month and as much as I’ve gotten into it at this point, I don’t know if it’s worth it in the long run. But as long as I use it a couple of times a year, I’m coming out even because it’s an insurance policy for something big which is why I keep it. If my friends are looking for one, I'd tell them to look into American Home Shield, but they don't have to do it.

The person was very knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem quickly. They did not fix it that day, which was a little frustrating. I had spoken with Viking and the parts were still under warranty. Then, American Home Shield tried offering me the cash instead of the repair, but I declined that.

It was a little bit confusing working with the appliance people, American Home Shield and Viking to get the parts under warranty. Getting it done took me a little longer than I had anticipated, but Viking sent the parts under warranty to the appliance people and they were able to do the repair. All in all, it took over three weeks to get it fixed. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. However, one time I was on hold for 40 minutes when I tried to reach them by phone. It was not as quick as just calling the repair person and having them repair it, so I had to be a little patient, but it was definitely worth it.

Everything has been going well since the repair. The service is normally with individuals who seem to be qualified and know what they’re doing. The payment system that AHS has in place allows me to pay upfront and it makes it easier once the service is rendered. I would recommend American Home Shield. The only thing is the AHS site needs some improvement as it does not give me the opportunity to identify more than one unit. If I have three air conditioners and I need two of them repaired because they’re broken, it doesn’t give me the ability to indicate that there is more than one unit.

American Home Shield has been great forever. They call me and they set me up for an appointment with someone. The contractor comes out and they figure out what’s going on. I was in real-estate for 30 years, and we’ve been using American Home Shield. With the advent of this kind of service, we started using different companies and found out this is who I like and they service my clients well. So, we’ve had them at this house for years and they’ve been fabulous until this year. I called because my oven stopped working and I had it repaired repeatedly through AHS. And I called and they sent me an email that said that this certain company was going to come out and contact me to make an appointment. And so, I was waiting and weeks went by and nothing.

So, I called the contracting company and left a message. I get that they were busy because this was before the holidays. But they could have at least called me so I could get some idea when they were coming out. Still nothing, so I finally called American Home Shield back and told them the contracting company never called me, and I didn't want AHS to refer me to that company again. AHS said it was fine and that they wouldn't. I said I would like them to have Cirrus come out because they’ve been fixing everything in this house every time we called for the last six years. AHS said they understood, but then I got an email that said they referred me to the same company who didn’t call me. That made me a little angry and I never got a call and I tried to reach the contractor but couldn’t.

I have a double oven, and I went through the holiday without one of the ovens. We were eight people here. On top of that, when I had originally called, I said my dryer was running really hot and I needed to get that handled because that was dangerous. But nothing came through and no one called. When I called the second time, I told them not to send this company and I really wanted to focus on the stove. The third time I called AHS, at this time it has been months, I asked for a manager but they would not let me speak to one. These were the actions of a company who’s going out of business, and I told them that.

So the rep had me stay on the phone while she tried to get a hold of Cirrus and finally said that she wasn't getting any answer and that Cirrus was really busy. But she said she will make sure that Cirrus is the one who comes out and I would get an email stating that it’ll be Cirrus calling me. But they referred me again to the company who wouldn’t call me, so I was livid. It had been going on for four months which was a seriously long time. So, I worked on the website, and I did a “Speak to someone now.” And I had a communication with AHS typing back and forth. No one seemed to be able to do anything and I was certainly not getting service.

I went through the whole thing and told them to look the claim up. They gave confirmation numbers or order and I wrote down everything and who I spoke to. The rep said that instead of going through the normal process, I would be put right to dispatch, which contacted them immediately. That would be wonderful. And then I told them that as long as we were doing that, I requested for someone to come out for my dryer as well. The rep said she would add that to the dispatch. I had to leave, and then my husband got a phone call from the company who would never call me. The first time they came out, they saw what was wrong and then they ordered the parts. I was very concerned that the claims weren't going to be handled properly.

When I was out of town, they came over. It’s this company, but this guy really seemed to know what he was doing and he said he was going to order the parts and they were going to go to him. That was wrong because the parts are supposed to come here. That’s how they've always done it. In that way, we know when the part arrived and we contact them to immediately get an appointment. But if the parts go to them, we don’t know when the parts arrive and they can just wait. And the parts don’t usually take long. They’re Cirrus parts and they are still in existence.

When I came back home, my husband said he has not heard anything from the contracting company. That could be another delay ploy. But then they called and said they got the parts. They came out and they sent an apprentice who had been learning with the owner of this company. He fixed the oven and I was very happy. The stove is working. But when I asked about the dryer, he said it wasn’t on the job order. He explained what the problem was with their company, and I understood why. I’ve been in business forever, and I understand circumstances, so I’m good. The owner of that company then called me and apologized profusely. He said they now got someone who was going to do the scheduling. He even gave his private line.

Somebody knows what the contractor is doing out, but they never got anything from AHS. This guy said that AHS used to be really good but AHS picked up over two million new contracts this year. AHS was expanding really rapidly and they still do. They are a more expensive company than all of the other companies, but because they’ve been so good, I was willing to pay top dollar to have them. But the contracting company had people who called them screaming and angry because these people got this company’s name but this company never got anything from AHS telling them to call and set an appointment. He said AHS has gotten overwhelmed and the contracting company didn’t get the job orders.

So now I am concerned that AHS either has grown far too quickly or they’re just not training their people well. And they will not let you go to a manager to get things worked out. There’s no other way of contacting someone in the chain of hierarchy. What I usually do at this point is I’ll contact the CEO directly and let the CEO let it roll downhill. And then someone will call because when it comes from the top person, pretty much everybody jumps. I need AHS to come back and I need them to fix a couple of things on the stove and the oven because it got warped to pieces and still the temperature is off even though it ignites.

I bought this oven from the brochure at Cirrus. We went top of the line but it turned out to be of lousy quality and they immediately stopped making them. It’s a really bad piece of equipment and so far, AHS has put out more in repairs on this thing than what we paid for it. We almost paid more in deductibles than we could have gone out and bought a new one. It was a hundred bucks each time and the motherboard had been replaced several times, and that’s a really heavy price. I would be happy to have it replaced and they say that’s what they’ll do, but they’re not doing it. That worries me that they’re not stepping up. They’re willing to keep putting out money when really, they should just replace. For any business, that is a red line right there.

The bottom line is, AHS is not functioning like a company that is going to stay around. Their inner structure is either not keeping up with how big they’re getting or the people aren’t trained, or it’s not effective anymore. I don’t want to change companies because I haven’t found anybody who is even as good as they are. But I’m going to look and talk to some people. I have a lot of connections with real-estate up here and I hate to run around bad mouthing, but I would tell people not to go to AHS right now. If AHS can’t get things fixed, what’s the point of spending $6,800 upfront or more making payments and not getting service? AHS is a bad business and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone until they fix their growing pains.

The plumber said that he can replace the heater but it was not identical but American Home Shield said no. I waited nine days without hot water for AHS to ship it to Durango where I could have had one after two days that was just as comparable and was less the cost. My plumber’s assistant called and she said she was on hold for an hour and a half trying to talk to the contractor. I tried to talk to AHS and I was on hold for over an hour and 15 minutes before I got to a person to talk to. It did not make me any happier to be on hold that long.

AHS has to fix their wait times or should have the option of someone calling me back. It would be really good because I started to lose patience unless I knew that I’d sit for over an hour. Their representatives were doing their job and it was not their fault. They did not seem to have any control or flexibility on the type of water heater that could be replaced. Although, the representative was polite. I even tried to talk to a supervisor but they didn’t feel like they could help me.

When I called on day four, I got the option of getting my own heater and having AHS reimburse it. But at that point, the heater was already shipped and I had to pay a restocking fee of $100 which I wasn’t going to do. I was sort of screwed. I had a very good plumber and he installed the heater very nice. He was a local person and not from American Home Shield. And he was questioning if he wants to work with them in the future. If a friend would ask about American Home Shield, I would have them read the fine print.

After he came, it started back again, which prompted the second person to come out. He was correct in his diagnosis, but we still had a leak after that. What we didn’t know, which the third person told us, was there was residual water down below that hadn't drained out yet.

We freaked out because the second person said it was taken care of, but five days later, it started leaking again. The third person said that it wasn’t really another leak. It was just water had gathered from the second leak and hadn't drained out yet. It had not been cleared, so now that everything has drained out and there had been no more leaks. This was the first time that we've had an issue go on this long. However, with all of our other experiences, the service providers have come promptly and resolved the other issues. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had an issue with the booster pump and the actual pool pump. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and with the first company that was supposed to come out never did. I made four calls and scheduled four different times but they never showed up and they stopped returning my calls. So, I called American Home Shield back and asked them to please get in touch with someone else to send a technician out. Once they got in touch with the second company, the guy from there arrived out to cure the problem of both pumps and the pumps are performing great now. The tech who came out was very knowledgeable and very polite. He had everything he needed the first time he came out and he took care of everything in one trip.

It's American Home Shield's policy to give the contractor an opportunity to fix my washing machine and so this is the sixth time the same contractor has come out. They refuse to send somebody else. When I first made the call, the contractor texted me to ask what was wrong and immediately ordered a motherboard for it without even saying why. They have sent part after part and it's not being fixed.

American Home Shield does not have good customer service and I’m dissatisfied. They couldn't care less about their customer and it seems you get whatever you get. I live in an older home so as far as saving money, it helps but it can be very frustrating because I feel like they use the bottom of the barrel contractors a lot of times. The pool people were great, came out the same day I called and fixed the pool. But I’ve had several experiences where it’s not that wonderful and if I had bigger savings when I bought my house, I wouldn’t have gotten American Home Shield.

The American Home Shield reps were fine and very nice and I thought I was going to get a free water heater but it turns out it was one of those things that wasn’t. The contractors had to come back to repair it and I got charged twice for the call. They had to put a reserve tank on because it’s a 64-gallon tank in this house. It’s a big house and it has one water heater. The biggest tank they could get was a 50-gallon tank. American Home Shield provided us with a reserve tank but it cost a couple hundred dollars to get that done and put back in. So, it turned out to be expensive. But sometimes insurance is that way. AHS did a good job. When I bought the policy, it was supposed to cover everything and they’re being replaced free. But over the 17 years that I’ve had it, they keep giving less and less service but I’m still paying more and more for the process.

It was a pretty simple repair and I'm confident that everything is fine. I've had American Home Shield before on properties I've sold and bought, but this is the first time I've come to use them. The online thing was okay. However, there were a lot of times when some of the options don't seem to quite fit right well enough. And then, trying to call in and get somebody on the phone was impossible, so it makes it frustrating at times.

A technician arrived within a day or two. It was during the cold stretch here, so they were busy. And they ended up having to send three different ones because there were so many issues that they had to come and address and they had to order parts. But all three of the techs were nice. The second one was not that great, but the first and third were phenomenal. Since the repair of the furnace, it has been perfect and spot-on great. I'm incredibly happy with the outcome. We have it on a program anyway, so it's been running off the program or the way we've had it always.

The very first time we filed a claim to American Home Shield for the microwave, it took a long process. I got over the phone and they sent all information about the service person and the company, and then the company called me a day or so later. A fellow came over to fix the problem but the next day, it broke again. Then they came about two days later and fixed it again, and then later on that day, they tested it and put water to boil. Again, it wasn't working during the night, so I called AHS. They said we had to call General Electric, who was the last company that serviced it. Then the company fixed it, and the microwave has been okay.

I had an issue way back when something happened near the summer and I canceled the policy. So, in the past, I was without the warranty. We resolved it for about nine days and I was very satisfied at the time, but I went back and sometimes the service people fell through the loop. It happens everywhere, but before that, everything had been fine. Overall I'm very happy with American Home Shield. They're reliable when I have a problem and I can count on them.

AHS should screen the people who they work with more carefully because we've had a couple of instances in the past where we'd get a little scared that whoever is going to come out will be crazy. A few years ago, there was a person who came when we had a plumbing call. He couldn't fix the problem so he told us that he'd come back. However, he didn't. We had to call AHS again, and they had to get somebody else to come out. Then, that person ordered parts but it never got to us. We had to pay the $75 fee again to have someone else come out and yet that person didn't have the ordered parts. So, it drew out the process.

Then, we had something similar happen again. We had this outstanding order for someone to come out, but nobody was actually set to come out because the first person had cancelled. My husband had to call the company back and say, "Can you please send somebody out because nobody is coming." And they were like, "Oh! We thought there was." And we said, "No. They had called us and said they are not coming out and they wouldn't be able to for another week or two.” It was far out so my husband told them that we'd call AHS and ask them to send a different company. My husband had to call several times. It was irritating trying to get somebody to come out here.

But this last time was wonderful. Our furnace wasn't coming on so I called AHS and submitted a claim. It didn't take me long to get through to someone, but they had a little trouble locating someone in our area who was able to come out so I hung up and they looked for someone. Then, they called us back and told us that they were still looking for someone. So, there was a little bit of a process trying to find someone to actually service our area. They then sent someone from Frontpoint out and he was extremely professional and personable. He was quick, but you could tell he was making sure he was thorough. Also, he put covers on his shoes and he continued to take them and put them back on when he had to go back and forth to his truck a couple of times.

It is definitely worth having a home warranty but at the same time, you may sometimes feel like you're paying into it a lot and you're rarely needing to call, or that things aren't really covered that you would want them to be covered. But when that one big thing goes, like your AC or furnace, it's really nice to have somebody who is able, on a pretty quick turnaround, to get somebody out to help you.

I've had American Home Shield for three years now and I’ve had them for a couple of my properties. It’s easy to make a claim. I go online to do it and I get charged upfront. I like the fact that I can make my claims online without talking to anybody. Trying to get in contact with them via the phone is a nightmare. You can be on the line for hours, trying to get a live person to talk to about an issue. That’s the biggest thing.

Another issue is the contractors that come out. The quality of the people that they send out sometimes are not up to par. They may come out but they may not necessarily have the expertise to do what I need to be done. It’s about getting the job done correctly. Some of the other ones that I’ve had do come back and it’s always for the same thing. But I had a couple issues where they sent two different companies out. Right now, the issue with the dryer in my home is still ongoing. The guy has to come back because it is not repaired. Not all of the experiences I've had with AHS have been bad though. It’s just one or two of them that I’ve had issues with. Still, AHS is better than the other ones. I've seen worse companies that are in the same business.

When my toilet wasn't working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I prefer calling over the phone and it's easy because I've been with them for 14 years. However, the first 10 years were difficult. For instance, if something went wrong with your water heater, they would tell you that it was not insured because it's a piece over or an inch over. Eventually, if you got the right person, they would repair the whole thing. But with all the complaints, they've cleaned up their act and things are different now. Nowadays, they don’t put out so many questions. They just do what they have to do and what is expected.

Most of the contractors that come here are good. They were good this last time and the time before that. AHS has sent Sears and Sheryl, and they were always good. It depends on the person that they send and not the contracting firm. Some contracting firms have come here to do the work and it was a disappointment, and the same firm would send someone else and it would be great. Overall AHS has done everything I've asked, even though they didn't at first.

A friend of mine at work told me about American Home Shield. I’m single and a teacher. I don’t make a lot of money and I don’t know how to get these home repairs done. So one Saturday morning I was in bed with my iPad and I looked up all the information on American Home Shield and got the warranty. The money comes directly from my account so I don’t have to worry about mailing them a check.

I had insulation put in my home and I had a guy over to inspect it. And I didn’t realize I was having problems with my water heater system as I never really go into that room but during the inspection the guy noticed my water heater was leaking bad. He said one of the valves was going out. So I went in to check and sure enough it was. I looked at my American Home Shield plan and I saw where it covers my water heater. So I called them and they immediately got me connected with a plumber. There was no layover time. The plumber called and set up a time and date and came out and looked at it. They said that they don’t normally replace valves. I really needed a new water heater so they got me one.

I love American Home Shield. They were so speedy and I didn’t have to miss any work. I have a retired neighbor and he was able to let the contractors in. They came and did the work. I left a check for them on the kitchen table because there were some parts that American Home Shield didn’t really cover. But it was nothing compared to what I would have been out of without American Home Shield. Everything was taken care of and cleaned up. It was awesome. They were so consistent and reliable. I would recommend American Home Shield. I’ve got two people who have signed on since I’ve been on.

When I call American Home Shield's 1800 number, it’s 30 minutes of waiting so I usually file claims online as it’s easier that way. I understand that the computers are replacing people but there are certain things you have to talk to people about. And hold times are horrible in all aspects. But I felt very good with all the contractors that American Home Shield sent out. When we had an AC unit problem, it was handled within 30 minutes.

We've had problems multiple times on multiple things and on some occasion, there was a disconnect between the contractor and American Home Shield. I had two previous claims for my washing machine and my dryer, which they ultimately replaced. The problem with a large appliance situation is that they always want to replace the part that wasn't working. On the dryer, it was the control board and it was the leaking drum for the washer. With the washer, they replaced it right away because anytime you have a leaking washer and a leaking drum, you just remove the old drum out and put a new one in it. It’s integral to the washer. They gave us a price quote on the washer and we took it. We bought a new washer and we were happy.

As for the dryer, we had to hang our clothes up for three weeks because they wanted to try a new control board out. We had to wait for a week for the new control board, but then the new control board had a second control board that the guy didn’t order since they wanted to do it one at a time. When the second control board needed to be ordered, they told us to just go ahead and get a new dryer. But the people American Home Shield contracted were very nice. They did it on a Thursday but then it took them until Monday, which upset my wife because it was four more days that she had to hang the laundry up.

I know American Home Shield does a lot of neat stuff. They text me when the guy is on his way. I can tap a link and I can see that he’s on his way and I can see that he's five or ten minutes away. It’s helpful because I don’t have to be at home all day. I can be at work and get home within 15 minutes to meet them. But sometimes there's a disconnect between American Home Shield and their contractors and the part doesn’t get ordered, which puts more stress on the customer. In order to get a replacement quote or to get somebody, you don’t call the 1800 number, which tends to get answered more quickly. But you have to go to the appliance replacement department, where the hold times are anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. It is just horrible.

Moreover, you get inconsistency of service there. You get somebody that says, “Go buy a new one. We’ll send you a link that says we can offer you these following washing machines and the price range of what we’re offering you. You can buy it from there or you can buy your own. If you buy your own just submit the bill. We will pay only up until the approved amount.” Then sometimes they would give you an email address where you can send it in. But sometimes they say that you have to call back. And when you call back there’s another 45-minute hold. Their appliance replacement department needs help.

The rep on the phone told me that because I had only been covered a day, “it honestly just looked bad,” insinuating I was lying about this problem. So although the coil and ice maker were shown to have normal wear and tear and be defective, which is covered, they believed it to be a pre existing condition. What?? I asked for an explanation of why they felt it was pre existing based on the technician's report or proof from the technician that it was a pre existing problem.

He merely read the technician's report that only stated that it would not have passed a visual inspection. It looks like a perfectly normal, clean, well maintained and functional appliance. How would a broken ice maker and coil fail a visual inspection? I asked to speak to a supervisor and was denied. I’m floored. I’m a real estate agent and will warn my clients to stay away, as I can see new homeowners encountering this same issue very easily. See photos and explain how one would visually know anything was wrong.

However, the one time I had a bigger issue, they sent out 4 companies over 1 year and no one could fix the problem with my washing machine not draining. In the meantime, I had dripping wet clothes that I would have to try to wring by hand then run the dryer 6-7 cycles to dry the clothes. They said I needed to put a larger load in and I explained that this happened whether the load was average or small to no avail. I asked to talk to a supervisor and no one ever called as had been promised. Then when I tried to cancel they said another department had to handle that and no one called. I had to call multiple times to even get my account closed. Also they are horribly understaffed to take claims calls--average wait time was always in excess of 1 hour!

And because it was a weekend I had to pay an additional $150 more than the normal fee of $75 which was the only thing that I didn't like. The contractor was very nice. He was very informative. He came out and fixed it and did a great job. He said that the AC looks great. I needed Freon so I had to buy it. And he said that it was under warranty for 60 days. If anything else is wrong in the next 60 days, I can call and then, it will be under the same claim. My AC is wonderful since the repair. It keeps me cool.

My friend is buying a house. I told her that when they decide to buy a house, without a doubt, they need to get the Home Shield. Although there is a copay it at least gives a reassurance from a homeowner perspective that if something big goes wrong that they can't really budget for, they have American Home Shield. It's like a protection. It doesn't pay all claims but it pays the majority.

On January 30th, my husband was sent to an emergency, and when we came home that night, the floor of the kitchen was flooded. Thanks to my neighbor, he determined that the flood was coming from the filter canister attached to our InSinkErator hot water dispenser. So, the next day, I called it in and explained to American Home Shield what the problem was and told them that the leak may have come from the hot water dispenser. And because there was so much flooding, I called in my own plumber to determine whether or not the leak was coming from the dishwasher since the dishwasher wouldn’t operate. I waited for about a week and a half, and a very nice plumber from Amazing Plumbing came out. Then he told me that the filter was not covered by AHS. The plumber was so nice that he even looked up a website as to where I could buy a filter and told me how to replace it.

I took care of the problem myself, but I could have avoided waiting all of that time had the person on the phone indicated from the get-go that the filter was not covered. So I was not at all happy. Also, it takes a very long time for AHS to get somebody to come out. Years ago, when I first subscribed, AHS used to advertise that they would have somebody able to assist me in 24 or 48 hours. And now, it takes a week or a week and a half. They have to send somebody out to assess what the problem is, and I’m talking about other experiences because I have had quite a few with AHS over the years. And then, they would order the part and we’d have to wait for that. Once the part came in, then I could make an appointment which would cause more time to wait. The last issue I had was my dishwasher, and it took a total of three weeks which was not helpful. I’m even thinking of switching to another company.

We had the house rekeyed when we moved in, so I called and set it up with American Home Shield. The reps were friendly and professional and they were able to help me out fairly quickly. It was within a week of us calling that the local contractor had called and set up an appointment and then came out to actually do the work. The contractor was very quick and efficient. He's a locksmith and he knew exactly what he needed to do. He made sure that not only were the locks rekeyed but also the door locks themselves were in proper working order. And that required him to pull some of them apart and work them. He was above my expectation on the work he performed.

I've very little experience with American Home Shield and that one experience with the locksmith was very positive. It's reassuring to know that I have the warranty if I need it, but I hope I don't need to call American Home Shield again. I've never dealt with a home warranty before and they knew exactly what needed to be done and they were on top of it. I definitely appreciated having someone like that that I could call and that I knew I could count on. American Home Shield made my experience easy.

I used to have American Home Shield in my old house and I had them for about three years. We lapsed on the service and then now with the new house, we've had them for about a year. It's a good service and we're happy with it. When I had a pipe leak, the plumber came in and fixed it. He had to do some cutting into a beam and American Home Shield said they didn't cover that but they covered the pipe leak, which was fine.

On the other hand, I have a cooktop that American Home Shield denied the claim on because the contractor they sent said that it looked like something fell on it. I told him nothing fell on it. A cold thing touched it after something had been cooking on it and that cracked the glass on top. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they can send somebody out but if they don't agree then I'll get charged again. I would be out almost $260 if they don't agree with the claim which was ridiculous. The repair's a thousand dollars and them bringing somebody else to look at it is already a quarter of what it would cost for the repair.

American Home Shield's reps are very helpful but it takes so long to get through to anybody. The last two claims weren't that bad but before that, every single time I called took about anywhere from half an hour to an hour just to get through to customer service. It's good that you can do it online though. Other than that, they're pretty good. The contractors they have sent were very good as well. Other than the guy who dealt with the claim on the stovetop, everybody else has been fantastic. They called before they came and they were very professional.

I called American Home Shield a couple of months ago about my dryer. Their rep asked for my contract number, told me Digital Warrior will be going to come out and check it and it was going to cost me $75 for Digital Warrior to come out. Digital Warrior came out and their guy checked it. He said that they were trying to get certain parts for my dryer, but my dryer was outdated. He said he have to contact American Home Shield and let them know. About a week later, American Home Shield sent me an email stating the dryers they had and what they recommended. I chose what I wanted and let them know. Then they called me and told me that the person would be here at such time and the people they contacted called me.

The interaction I had with their contractor was excellent. They were helpful and nice. The dryer has been great since then and I love it. There's a little light inside it so we can see what's in there and that's what we like the most. It's just nice and we enjoy it. American Home Shield was very professional. They let me know right away the contractor that would come out. I recommended it to my sister who lives in Tucson, Arizona and I told her that we've been with American Home Shield for years.

I had an issue with my refrigerator and American Home Shield gave me a company that did not service this area and I couldn’t get a hold of. I had to call AHS and then they changed it to another company which was called Bay to Bay. They sent out one of their troubleshooters and he said it was one part. They ordered it, they got the part in, and they sent a kid that had to read directions on how to put things in. Then he said the refrigerator was working, but it didn’t cool down. He said in about 15 hours it would get cold, but I put ice packs in the freezer and in 12 hours, they weren’t even frozen. So, I called back AHS and they sent out the same troubleshooter again who had a hissy fit because there was stuff off the side of the refrigerator that he had to pull the refrigerator straight out but knocked everything down. He was yelling and screaming, "I can't work like this.”

Then all of a sudden, he said that it was all these motors that went and he asked why they didn’t detect that from the beginning. He said there were bugs in the refrigerator, but I don’t have bugs. The kid that put it in screwed it up, and AHS did not want to cover it so I canceled AHS two weeks ago. If AHS was going to send me people that do shoddy work and aren’t capable of doing the work, then I don’t need AHS as a company. I've asked AHS to send me the money for those two months that I was dealing with this company that they kept sending out, and AHS has not done that yet. I was very dissatisfied with AHS and I would never use them again even it was free.

The technician said everything was fine on it and that it was good on Freon. But he basically told us to put it on emergency heat if it gets below 30 and we've never been told that before. Then yesterday, I saw some frost around the unit even though it shouldn't have been doing that because it wasn't that cold. Otherwise, the service was fine and the tech was professional.

Our oven broke and American Home Shield had a repair person come out. The first contractor that they sent was from Cirrus and they canceled the last minute and then there was no one to get a hold of to get me a new repair person. The people from Cirrus were crazy rude, which was really annoying. But the people at American Home Shield were fantastic. They were the only shining light in it. They were nice and were really free. They found another person that could come and he seemed okay. He quickly diagnosed how expensive the repair would be. So we had an oven replacement. We ordered it through AHS and they gave me an option to choose from because the oven that I had previously was not a current model.

There were two-phases to getting the oven. There was a person who literally just came and dropped the oven off and he was gonna leave it on the porch. And I had to ask him to bring the oven in. I also asked him if he could install it and he said that there was someone else who would do it. Then I asked if their company install ovens, and he said that they could but I was not signed up for it. So we had an oven sitting in our kitchen in a box for about a week and a half. Then a second crew came out and they were lovely and awesome. They were super fun and just really chill. They installed the oven really quickly and that was wonderful.

I got American Home Shield for my old home. A family friend told me about it and I put the plan into place later in November. Recently, there was a cracked pipe in the wall and it was leaking. It took a couple of weeks though to open this claim. The communication was bad. They’re very courteous people but to explain what we wanted and what we needed, it was not following through. We get off the phone explaining everything from A to Z and these service vendors are still showing up with no idea.

The first service provider for this plumbing issue misdiagnosed the problem and the issue wasn’t covered. Luckily, AHS said that they can send somebody else out and give it another assessment. The second plumbing company assessed it correctly and we were able to get it fixed. But now we’re still waiting for a contractor to come and patch up the wall. That’s why it has taken another month. And it’s in my three month-year-old baby’s room. It’s where they had to cut into the wall.

They took care of it but it took a month. It was leaking into my basement for a month. After multiple calls between myself and my fiancée, we finally got the right plumbers to come out, got it assessed properly and got it fixed. I’ve learned that after we get this work AHS should’ve dispatched us to call the service vendor and explain the situation because the communication is getting lost between that connection, the middleman between us, the customer and the service provider.

We had two plumbers come out who said that they’ll be back but they never came back. AHS said that these plumbers were the only two choices. So, it’s limited. I’m in Central New Jersey. It’s a populated tri-state area. We got New York 15 minutes away and Philadelphia is just a passable area. So, it would be better if there’re a little more available service providers to help us out. AHS is great at covering the claim. I’m still going to renew my contract next year but it’s a little bit of a lag trying to get this work completed. I recommend it to everybody but I just wish it was better.

I did that, they sent a person out, who then sent the information to AHS. AHS said that the part wasn't covered. I said that I don't have heat and asked how is it not covered. I had to pay the company they sent $650 to put a new zone panel so that the heat goes to different parts of the home at different times instead of all at the same time. I asked them to fix it where I didn't have to have the zone panels.

The owner of the business called me and said that they won't do that. They pushed me to pay them to repair it. They installed it, but it still doesn't work. Anything that I've called AHS for so far has not been covered. I couldn't get in my garage door and I called them. But they that it was not covered. I bought the warranty because I had nothing to pay out of my pocket for repairs, but it is worthless to me and I should've kept my money.

When I submit a claim online to American Home Shield, they immediately send me back a contractor's phone number. Depending on the time that I submit, I usually get a call back the next day. I had a water heater that wasn't heating and after I submitted a claim online late night, a repair person called me the next day. We scheduled then they came out and looked at it and had to order the parts. I had to wait probably another week or so for the part to come in and the gentleman came and installed it when it came in. He explained to me what he was doing and showed me exactly what the problem was, and shared with me how really it was a sensor and it doesn't work when it gets coated with guck. So, he then put a new part in there and we had no problems after that.

One of the things I've noticed about American Home Shield is that they seem to go with the smaller company, like a mom and pop shop. So, sometimes I get a one person deal and I may have to wait a little bit depending on how busy they are. Then I get the guy to drive up in my driveway with no insignia on the side of the truck because they're a small company. And that's an issue I have.

We joined American Home Shield a couple of months ago and it has been fine. But before we had them, I would Google somebody and call them to get here. When they get here, they’d see if they needed to order a part and two days later, they’d call me right back to schedule. With AHS, we had one different company come out and fix our washer and that was fine. Although I find it really annoying that whoever AHS have an agreement with took forever to get the parts. It was like seven to ten days for them to get the part then they called me and I asked them when are they coming. They told me they’d be here sometime next week. It was spanning three weeks to do one repair, which was really cumbersome when I didn’t have a working washing machine.

They kept sending the same guy but this guy can’t do my oven or the ice maker because he has a bad back. The guy also told me that he has never fixed one of those and he’ll just order me a new icemaker. It took two weeks for the part to come in and him to come back. He puts it in and told me that it should work. And if it in 24 hours it doesn’t make any ice, then I’ll have to call them back. He didn’t know what he was doing. He was supposed to come today between 10:00 and 1:00 to hopefully fix the icemaker. The contractor gives me the weirdest windows and I keep telling them that I have kids that I have to drop off and pick up at school and I have work also.

I didn’t have time for them every week to either come out and look or to bring the part and repair it. I asked the contractor why can’t they send someone who knows. The technician told me with his own mouth that, “I’ve never worked on one of these Frigidaire Gallery icemakers. So, we’ll just get that part and that should do it.” He can’t be the only guy working at the company so it shouldn’t be my problem. This guy has come in and out of my house five times in seven weeks. It is the most inefficient repairs I have ever seen.

I went through American Home Shield, did my little ticket online and asked why can’t I have somebody that knows how to actually fix the appliance one time. It’s not complicated when I go online but I’m very disappointed in the people AHS is sending out. And nobody from AHS is contacting me to follow up or say, “Hey, we sent out this contractor and this is supposed to get repaired. We see your ticket is still open, it has been eight weeks.” They must have a turnaround time tracking going on that say how long has the ticket been open and to ask if they need to get me a different contractor. So I have not been very pleased with the follow through. My parents have Sears and they do appliances and I’m thinking very strongly of switching to them next year because their quality of service has been so much better.

My wife told him that we've had an electrical problem before in the same area with the dishwasher to give him a heads up that it might be an electrical problem, but he didn’t even look at it. He said, "Your garbage disposal is old and rusty, so it’s a pre-existing problem. You need to replace the garbage disposal." He also told us that the corporate office told him that if the issue is a pre-existing one, he could do nothing. He also didn't fix the drain issue. AHS denied the claim and everyone I talked to kept trying to deny me. They also sent me a letter trying to explain what's not covered.

I then had to have a plumber come out. I got a new garbage disposal for $300 and he installed it. However, it still wouldn’t work. That's why he said it was an electrical problem. Then, what he did was he plugged up the old garbage disposal in the same extension cord and it worked. AHS charged me a service fee and they told me that they couldn’t give me my money back because the contractor had already installed the new unit. I called back after they denied my claim and after the plumber had gone and they sent out an electrical technician to fix the electrical problem. They didn’t charge me for it. But if the guy who first came out had just checked, he would have found it was an electrical problem and could have gotten somebody out here to fix it. I ended up putting $300 and now I have two garbage disposals.

I’ve been having trouble with the heat pump from our refrigerator for months. And finally, American Home Shield seems to be answering their phones quicker. It used to take an hour to get through someone on the phone. It takes two weeks for an appointment with the contractor. And the third time the tech came, he still did not fix it. Every time he comes, I have to completely empty the refrigerator overnight and let it defrost for 24 hours. This is the fourth time he came out and it’s not fixed. He has ordered the part and it takes two weeks for the part for a Samsung to come in. Then I have to schedule an appointment and it takes up to two weeks to get him to come back out. I've been dealing with this for six months.

At one point, I realized that this contractor doesn’t know what he’s doing, and I've already asked if somebody else could be sent out. He keeps coming and evidently, he’s not familiar with this item and he said he’s the only one certified here who can do it. In the meantime, I’m only able to keep a few things in the fridge. I’m ready to take it out in the front yard but it’s a two-year-old, $1500 fridge so I can’t afford to just get rid of it.

I usually submit my claims online but because I've been having the same issue, the website won’t let me do it so I have to call it in. The reps who answer the phone are friendly. I rarely speak to anyone from American Home Shield. I avoid calling them because it usually takes way too long to call. On the other hand, the company AHS used for the air conditioner was really good at what they do and they give quick service. However, you’re stuck with one person regardless if they can’t perform the service. We had an electrician before who kept coming to fix the same issue and he didn’t know what he was doing.

I wouldn’t suggest AHS. It’s important that if I want to call someone to fix an issue, I know that they can take care of the job. If I have an electrical problem, I want to call the electrician that I know can handle the job. It’s not worth the hassle of having somebody that you don’t know come out and they’re not accountable to anyone, not to me and not to AHS.

The ceiling leaked and the leak went into the kitchen ceiling, so it broke. It was probably about a week or two ago when my wife called American Home Shield and filed the claim. So far, I haven't had anybody call to do the work. But American Home Shield has always taken care of things and what I've had to have them do, they've done well.

I had two claims with American Home Shield and I submitted them over the phone. One was for plumbing and when the tech came, I found out that it was not covered in the warranty. I had a pipe that was not connected to the house but to the foundation and the tech told me that I needed to get a gardener to have it fixed. He said that they could do it but it would cost a lot less if I got a gardener. So he didn't do anything but the kid was nice and $75 was still cheaper than if I were to call the plumber because they would've charged me a hundred and something dollars. My other claim was for my air conditioner and Amen Air came out to take care of it. I paid for both of the services done but there was a mix up in how American Home Shield billed me. I got one bill that I paid a check for and sent it in, then the other one I paid with the credit card which is what I normally do. Other than that, I love them and recommend them to everybody.

Our sink drain wasn't working and we ran water down, trying to figure out what it was. After two weeks, we gave up and filed a claim with American Home Shield online. At that time, I also called to update my payment information because when they tried to run my old credit card that I was closing out, the transaction got declined. I updated everything and they told me that it would just fill everything automatically and not to do a payment over the phone because, otherwise, I'd get billed twice. The contractors they sent did a really good job. They fixed the issue for us and we haven't had an issue with our kitchen sink since. I've told the people that I work with about American Home Shield. I have a friend who bought a fixer-upper type of house and they were really concerned about some of the stuff going on. And I told them that AHS really took care of us when we needed to get the furnace replaced in our house in Ohio.

We had flickering in the house and half the house went out. We had a private electrician out and he got us back online by working around something electrical. He also told us we needed a new panel for $350, but the home warranty covers it. American Home Shield’s call center has a ridiculously long wait time most days so I filed the claim online. But the first electrician they referred didn’t have anybody to send out. They were saying that somebody would come out 10 days later.

The big problem was canceling out of the first claim and opening a new one. We wanted a change of person so we weren't going to file a new request because that would cost $75 again. But my husband gave them a credit card that when they switched to the new company, they passed out that charge. But two electricians were called out through the home warranty for our first opinion and second opinion, and when he had another charge, I thought it was for the second opinion and I was grumpy about that. AHS didn’t tell us what was happening and that they needed the card for the charge to go back. It was as if they reversed the charge on the first company they referred. But we didn’t hear about it until the email that said we were more than a week and the links went on our payments. It was a communication issue.

My husband was here for the first opinion and he was happy with the professionalism. He asked if the electrician could do it but the electrician told my husband that AHS would want a second opinion since they don’t like paying for boxes. I missed the phone call to get the second opinion scheduled and that ran a delay of a full 24 hours. Nonetheless, the second opinion was also perfectly professional. They both agreed that it’s a 40-year-old panel and it just went and gone. The first opinion told us that they couldn't actually do the install for two days. We were still having flickering and some arcing inside the box which was done to get us back online. So I told the second opinion to do it as quickly as possible. They told us that they could do it the next day and that they would reach out to AHS and get that approved.

The work was fine and the boxes were placed. We're still having a little bit of flickering but BGE said it isn't theirs and we're not having any arcing inside the box. It wasn't flickering when Mayday, who did the repair, came out either. So it was either the utility, which is what our private electrician thinks, or there were minor intermittent disconnection problems somewhere on our wall. At this point, we have a new box and an old house that has some minor house issues. I'm happy electrically even though it's not perfect. Overall, I was pleased enough with AHS to renew my contract for the next year.

My electric bill was very high and certain portions in the heater were not heating. Apparently something was broken in there. I went online and then filed a claim with American Home Shield. Though I would not have preferred to do it online, I would have preferred to speak with a human being, but very quickly the system said that the reps were very backed up and that wait times experienced were longer than usual. But it turned out for the good. It was easy breezy online. I just filled it up and they got hold of me very quickly.

And the contractor was great. It looks like he runs a good honest business, informative, helpful and cheerful. I’m running a thermometer in different areas because he made some recommendations, like the system might be old and it didn't have certain things that newer systems have. It's not as cold as before and I haven't gotten a full bill but I think the house is warmer just based on hand.

One thing, however, was the payment process. I pay and then the website doesn't show a transaction number or my credit card’s last 4 digits. It didn't seem like a real good receipt. It just says, "Oh, you paid." And then I can browse through the website and click somewhere there for contractual terms. But if I wanted to save, take a picture or print out of my receipt from the renewal, it didn't seem very comprehensive or informative.

We have had several issues with American Home Shield to the point where I'm considering canceling. I bought the policy for our kids and I bought one for us. They were the ones that have had several claims and the worst one was their furnace went out on them in November, and they had a newborn and they live in Wisconsin. So, it was cold and it took two months for it to get resolved. That was ridiculous especially if there’s newborn. AHS told us to go buy a space heater, but we wanted the furnace to get taken care of. And so, they approved something, but they went the cheap route and it didn’t take care of the issue. The wrong part got ordered and it was not a good situation, so I was really disappointed in how American Home Shield handled it. It was also very difficult to get a hold of anyone.

We’ve been on the phone for a couple of hours at times waiting to get through. We have had issues with paying the service call, which was fine, but then if they have to come back out and it's not our fault, we’re asked for the service call to be waived. But we have had issues with them doing that and sending our past due notices when they say they’re waiving that fee.

The appliance guy that had been going out was very nice and very capable. He would say, “This needs to be done and this needs to be done to fix the issue,” but we’d have trouble getting American Home Shield to approve that. And then, if we want to call or talk to someone, we're back to the process of hanging on the phone and we don’t have a number that we can call direct and get a hold of someone. we have to through the process every time. We told a friend about American Home Shield and he investigated them and said, “No, way.” He wouldn’t use them because their ratings and the complaints were so bad. I have a daughter that works in the insurance industry and she's the one that recommended American Home Shield. She lives in California and she has used them and there's a bigger pool to draw from for getting new service and getting it fast.

I am very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. They need to make customer service a priority as far as for being available to us. I purchased the policy for my daughter and it's gotten really confusing. Eventually, AHS took care of stuff, but it's been a really frustrating process and the furnace thing went on way too long.

Our microwave had burned out. A man showed up and he did have a problem trying to isolate the issue, but once he sorted through the wires, he was able to put in a new part. It began to function, and it's been working fine ever since. He actually had to leave once or twice to get the right part, but once he did, it worked beautifully just like it did before it blew out. It was done properly. It was perfect. The man seemed to know what he was doing. I was very pleased as I have been in the past with the people AHS recommends. And whenever I call in, everybody was extremely helpful.

My latest claim was for my oven which was not igniting. Depending on my mood, I either emailed or called AHS to submit a claim for repair. The interactions I normally have with the claims reps have been fine. For my claim on the oven, the technician wanted to come within a day, but I was unable to get away from work, so we had to schedule the service call further out in the week. He came right away and we had a very nice interaction. Since the repair, the oven has been awesome in its performance.

A fan was stuck in my furnace and I submitted a claim using American Home Shield for my heating. I did it online and the website was user-friendly. All I did was pull up their website and put in my information because I had already set up my account. I just logged in and selected the appliance that I was having problems with. The technician came in after about two or three days when I set up the appointment and the interaction was fine. He was a nice gentleman and I told him what the problem was and showed him where the furnace was. He went down and took a look at it. At first, he couldn't figure out what was going on with it and he said to check everything that picked out what was going on with it. It worked for a day but then the next day, it wouldn't work in the morning so I had to call them back.

They sent someone out with him who was more experienced and he was the one who found out that the problem was actually the fan. The furnace has been excellent ever since. Having a warranty on the property is very valuable. I'm getting what I can't afford but I need it. If it's really major stuff and they can't fix, they will try to replace it to the best of their ability or try to fix it.

We have home warranties in our properties in Nebraska and California. We also have them in our properties in Cape Coral, Florida which we are in the process of selling, and in Pensacola, Florida which we are currently living in. We've had six different home warranty companies over the years and we believe in buying them. Among those companies, American Home Shield is by far the best and we prefer to go with them. But their warranty is not offered in some places. We also went with a different company in Cape Coral because we have a water softener there and American Home Shield doesn't cover water softeners.

When we have a claim, the AHS reps we talk to are usually pretty good. They generally contact Sears and have them prepare to stop by and take a look at the issue. They're very reliable and they stand behind what they said they're going to do. They've done pretty well for us and I would recommend them whether you're buying or selling a property, and if you need to own the property for years. But their service is not standardized across the United States. If I was in a bigger geographical area with a relatively decent population and I had a relatively stable service environment such as technician I'd be good with AHS. I'd get a much better and quicker service than if I lived in a remote area with a smaller population where the likelihood of getting anyone to come out and take care of the issue would be very difficult.

So if I was in a metropolitan area, I'd get somebody to come out in the next day or two. But if I called in for my heater in our Pensacola, Florida property, there'd be somebody out there within a day or so to take a look at it. If it was an absolute emergency, they'd give me the option of contacting someone on my own and pay for it, then they'd reimburse me.

AHS also saved us a lot of money. An air conditioner can be very costly if it goes out and sometimes you need a part that costs 49 cents to have it fixed. At other sometimes, you'll need a $4000 5-ton brand new air conditioner, but you pay the same service call out fee with AHS no matter what. Recently, we had a problem with our Jenn-Air glass cooktop for a stove. Jenn-Air no longer makes that brand and the tech could not get us a replacement for it. I contacted AHS and they told me that they would replace it with a new version. I found the GE Profile that cost $1500 and they ordered it. We're supposed to be getting it sometime in the next seven to 14 days. That would have cost us $1500, but instead, it cost us 75.

Other than that, sometimes it's so hard to communicate with AHS. I don't like calling and getting a voice machine where you have to punch numbers and tell them what the problem is is always irritating. I'd rather speak with a human being. In addition, with almost every other company nowadays, AHS outsources all their first line of connection. When you get someone from the Philippines, Mexico, or India, the first thing they say is "My name is Peggy" or "My name is Brian" and you'd know that's not true. There is also a language barrier issue and the nuances of language which is kind of a drag.

There was a problem with my plumbing. When I made a service call-in to AHS, they made me go through their prompt system. I had to tell their system what I was prompted to but it didn’t fall into the guidelines, so they transferred me to a rep. I tried to file my claim online so I told the lady that I got that I was on my third day trying to get through to them and now that I've talked to her, please disregard the online request. She was all upset with me and had such an attitude.

Then, the first plumbing company that AHS assigned to me only services my area once a week on a Wednesday and I missed their cut-off time. And when the appointment day came, they kept stalling. First, they were supposed to be out by 11:00, then it became 1:00, and then it became 4:00. Later, they said they'd be here by 8 or 9 o'clock at night. I told them that was unacceptable, so they asked if they could cancel it for the next day. I spoke to the owner and I was trying to be kind because I talked to her in December. She told me that they just got done with Thanksgiving and were being flooded with calls. I understood that but, at some point, there has to be some accountability.

In the end, I had to wait 10 days before they finally came out and in the meantime, I had to pay my water bill. When they came, they said I had too high of a water pressure and they were adamant that I needed an emergency shut-off valve. So, I called the AHS and asked for a second opinion. When the second plumbing company came out, they said that the pressure was fine and that I should be worried about low pressure. So the first plumbing company misdiagnosed the problem and I had to go to the water company and tell them there was too much pressure.

The second plumbing company also said that no parts were changed but the first plumbing company told me that they changed the rubber seal when they were here. They also didn't change those wearable items so I ended up waiting three weeks for it to be rectified. If the tech they sent out was really a plumber by trade, this would have been an easy fix. But when he was here, he was running around, taking pictures of the faucet, and asking if it was the right part. He was in and out of here within 15 minutes. Compared to that, the guy from the second plumbing company showed up here twice to correct the toilet that kept running and the shower that kept dripping.

These were all part of the same service call but AHS wanted to charge me extra for the second plumber even though the service call was never fulfilled by the first one. They kept sending me emails saying that I owe them money, but when I called, they said that their billing department had to catch up and that it'd take them three days. However, it's been two months now. I called AHS four times about it and asked if I could speak to their billing department. They said they weren’t in that office and that they wouldn't speak to me. I was calling every week then I started calling every three to four days. And now, this could possibly go into a collection account because no one is reading their notes.

I talked to their supervisor and said that their rep, Tiffany, was doing a great job but I wished they could follow through with my billing issue. I called three more times and the last person I got was Tiffany again who said that all the notes were there and to be patient. That was all good but when I called them, the average wait time was 30 minutes to an hour, which was excessive. I was also on hold for two to three hours because their computer was down twice in December. The young lady I got assured me that once their computers came up, I was one of their top priority and she was going to call me back, but I didn't get a callback. So, I'm frustrated and dissatisfied with AHS. They should hire people to be more pleasant and pick up the phone.

I own a second home that’s not with AHS and when I call, within five to 10 minutes, all my issues are resolved and it's effortless. So if this problem doesn't get resolved and I have to pay out-of-pocket, which AHS guaranteed me that I didn't, when my contract comes up, I'm going to go with the other home warranty program. I'm disabled and I've got doctor's appointments. It's not always convenient for me to hold on the line.

If you need something right away, there is red tape and then communication issues between the company and whoever is providing that service. Replacing a small hot water heater took the better part of a week-- then I was charged $75 for the visit plus $300. for installation costs that weren't included. This plus the $75. monthly fee made the transaction indefensible. When I called to cancel my contract a couple months later, which I've had for a year or more, I was informed that AHS would charge me to cancel-- $75.00. That's appalling!

When I called American Home Shield, they said they'd have to send one of their people out. So, I paid to have their person come out and they inspected it, confirmed what the first people had said, and eventually turned in the paperwork to AHS.

At that point it was a cash payout which I have not received yet and I just replaced the system outright because I don’t want to play this game of filling it up. My out of pocket would’ve been four times what they were going to pay me. But the staff of AHS were phenomenal the entire time. When I got a hold of somebody each time they were always super helpful in explaining the process. And at one point when I was curious about what was going on and I hadn’t heard anything from them, the rep was like, “Do you mind being put on hold?" I’m being put on hold so she could get the information from the contractor, which was not a problem. And then she called them up and then came back and told me what the problem was.

I'm experiencing the third strike on American Home Shield that’s related to the compressor. The air conditioning was working fine after we purchased the house in July last year. It was when the heat was being asked to come on the heat pump and the problem has been with the heating side. The AC side has been working except where the compressor has actually failed to do either one of them so the initial consensus and diagnosis back in January was that the compressor was bad. The compressor was replaced through American Home Shield's vendor. But that compressor was determined to be a failure and they replaced it in February. The other problem was there was a delay in the time process on the first bout we waited.

And now in March, when it was warm, the AC was working great as far as cold. And when I got back from a trip out of town, the temperature had dropped and the heat was now switched on automatically, nothing outside as far as the heat pump is running and only the blower inside was running. And so that's when I called in. The breaker was open. We reset it and tried the AC, and that’s what I'm doing again right now but it seems to be opening up the breaker so my problem is what the actual problem is.

The contractors have been fine although the vendor was the problem. And the one thing that was difficult was when the original replacement went bad and they determined that the second compressor replacement was also bad and they were going to replace it. They said I had to go back through American Home Shield to initiate another request. I said that the problem was on their end and I didn’t want to be charged again for another visit, which didn’t happen. They said that they have closed the request and they needed to get it re-initiated. And now we've got this third bout and I told them that I'm not calling American Home Shield to deal with this thing. This is their problem that they need to get fixed. They should talk to American Home Shield and they need to follow up on this because they were the last ones out here. And now it has gone cold again and the heat is doing the same thing that it did originally back in January.

My bigger complaint with American Home Shield is their vendors’ delay in getting us the part. Maybe they should pay a little more money for somebody in the local area to supply the compressor instead of dealing with the vendor so I would feel satisfied and not disgruntled. So, wherever they got it from and whatever time frame, it took a certain amount of time and there was always a chance they could have said, "Hey, American Air Care, do you have a compressor as compatible there? Can you get this done for them?” That's what they should have done.

My wife sells American Home Shield to clientele so we get a little bit skittish on the purchase side of it as buyers and she is not looking favorably at American Home Shield at this time. She's a sales type realtor up in the Atlanta area and what she does as a peace offering for people that are a bit hesitant in the purchase is to offer American Home Shield on her behalf and her paying for it. So, she's going to think about it now.

My pool had a noisy pump. I went online and submitted a claim with AHS. That was my first experience with them and going around their website was really easy. The tech from Watertight, the contractor they sent out, was a great communicator, professional, and knew exactly was he was doing. Then, there was an additional item that was loose which the company came out the next day for even though it was not part of the claim. They also repaired something else for free. If all my experiences had been like that, I'd be totally pleased. However, I had an awful experience last Wednesday. It started good, but it ended badly. I had a Vent-A-Hood above my stove which is the draft that sucks the air out when I’m cooking and it’s a very large piece of equipment. That had not been able to be repaired, so they replaced it, and that whole process was incredibly smooth.

But when it came to the installation, the person they initially assigned to me was completely incompetent and unprofessional. I had three interactions with him over the phone. Then, finally, on the day of the installation, an hour and a half after he was supposed to be here in a 9:00 to 1:00 window, he got rude and defensive with me. Twice that day, he called and asked for my address and if the claim was for the dishwasher. I told him it was for the hood over the cabinet like I told him the other three times we talked. He then asked if it was the one that pops up when you’re cooking behind the stove. So, I clarified that it was not that, and that it was the one that hangs in the cabinet which is 48 inches wide and 24 inches deep. He also asked me to send him pictures of the item that he needed to be working on but I refused to send them because I’ve already clarified that with him before.

Then he started telling me all the things that went wrong with his first job. I told him that I was not asking for an explanation. I reminded him that I called him last Saturday and he told me he could do this job. But now he was saying that he might need to stop and get a second person to help me. So I asked him if he was going to pick up a day laborer and bring someone he has never met. I’ve never had that experience when I called and booked someone with AHS. I always assumed that the contractors were competent.

I called American Home Shield to ask for someone else and it took me two hours on the phone with them. At first, they told me that he was the only person I could use and but I told them that I didn’t feel comfortable with this guy after my phone calls with him. They doubted me and called him about it. Then they said that he was just asking for a picture of what it was he was doing. But I told them that when I called him to schedule last Saturday and I clarified if he has done this before, I would have been happy to send him pictures and explain, but he insisted that he has done it hundreds of times. I had to go to the escalation department and eventually, AHS worked it out. The second guy I talked to was really nice about it and he understood.

I had a plumbing claim, too, and I've had to follow-up with F and L Plumbing, the company they assigned to me, numerous times. They closed out the tickets before the job was done and the contractors also didn’t call back to the office and clarify what the next step was. But once I called the front office, they talked to the contractor and they wrote it in. We’re still waiting on one piece, which is a little unfortunate, but nothing that didn’t get resolved. I’m going to continue with AHS and I would recommend them to a friend. My whole family uses them. They switched around to others but always went back to them. So far, I don’t have an unrealistic expectation of who’s coming into my house to work on things but I have the confidence that if it’s not done, I could call AHS and they’d send someone else out.

When we needed our ice maker fixed, the technician that came out was very, very good. He got the job done and explained to us what was wrong and why it happened. We also had our microwave replaced a year ago, but we didn't realize back then that American Home Shield only pays for standard items. Our microwave was chrome covered, and we only got reimbursed for a white faced microwave. It was no big deal because we didn't read the fine print, but it should be right there where you can see it better. They should put that in bold print somewhere, "We replace standard items." It's not replacing what you have, it's replacing what you pay for. And what American Home Shield pays for is something different. And that's a little misleading.

There are some things that American Home Shield does well eventually but they have the worst customer service. If we need to talk to a person, we need to take a half a day off of work and we need to be prepared to be on hold and sometimes disconnected. I just discovered their Facebook page and there are a lot of comments. People feel like AHS is doing a terrible job in general. They send out contractors that don't know how to do the work or do the least amount of work. It's like getting the runaround and maybe their true motto if they were honest, like if we were in the backroom of their company where nobody is listening, "Look, just make it as difficult as possible. They'll keep paying us and they'll just stop calling us 'cause it's too much of a frustration."

We've had plumbing issues in the past where they came out two or three different times before they finally truly fixed the problem with the back of our toilet. It's something that we could do for ourselves but we have this policy so we're trying to get some value from what we're paying for. We also have an air conditioning system and we found out that the contractors will not work with AHS because they don't get paid. Contractors don't get paid just to be on the phone for so long waiting to speak to somebody at AHS to get authorization to do the repair. So, the company that worked on the air conditioning system refused to do it and won’t speak and work with AHS. The better contractors might have refused to work with AHS just because of the business practices.

Either AHS doesn’t have enough people for the amount of account that they are getting paid to service or they have a bad business plan. We have an air conditioning system that only one company in our area services so we have to get outside authorization. There is no computer or email means to do this. We have to get on the phone for 30, 45 minutes. And then once we get to a person, they typically say, "Well, this department doesn't handle that. You'll need to speak to so and so, or this other department," and they usually don't offer to transfer us or do any of that. They would give us the phone number and then we can call and redo the wait. And then, the contractor has to call in but does not want to because they needed to be paid for their time and no one pays them for the time that they're sitting on the phone with AHS.

We've been with American Home Shield for a few years and dealt with tons of frustrations and we are at the point now where we're deciding if we should not have a policy at all and if that would be better than the frustration and the delays in getting repairs done versus the benefit. It's something we really have to scratch our head to decide whether or not we're going to continue on with them. A simple solution is to have enough people on staff that we can speak to a person in a reasonable amount of time. I don't want to waste my valuable time or do they want to pay me my salary for the amount of time that I'm waiting on hold. It’s upsetting working with American Home Shield.

I’ve used AHS before for a couple other things and the experience was better. The whole problem started with that crappy ASAP company. They didn't do a good job and they overpriced it. Now, I'm thinking that AHS' warranty were promises. One more shot like this and it will be spilling. Don’t do American Home Shield.

My water heater was leaking so I called them. I couldn't call until Sunday morning but when I got through, they told me that ASAP would come. They didn’t come on that Sunday. On Monday morning, I asked them when was ASAP coming out and they told me that my case was not a priority so they'll come out Tuesday. That time, my water was running out of the water heater and was flowing down in my garage, flooding it and the water was going down the street. They finally called me Tuesday morning and told me that the contractors will come Tuesday night. The garage was flooded at this time. The contractor agreed with me that the water heater was obviously rusted and busted. He, however, did nothing. He was horrible. My husband was here at that time and the contractor told him that he would shut down the water and he would request for a new one. We assumed that he turned the water off so we didn’t check it all night.

When the cleaning lady came the next morning, she told us that there was water running everywhere. The garage was flooded and the water was running down the street. The contractor didn't turn the water off. Then he left an estimate of $3000 to fix the water heater or get a new one. I thought that was extreme since I knew water heaters don't cost that much. But they said that AHS would cover $1700 of it and we will be responsible for the $1300, which still seems a lot considering you can get a new water heater for $800. I called the guy on Wednesday but I couldn't get to him. I then called AHS and I told the rep that the price was overriding and that the guy was horrible. He told me that there was a buyout and then I can hire whoever I want. He told me that it would take a day or two so I told him that they need to rush because the water was still down the street and it was Thursday morning then.

The contractor then came out and shut the water down. I called again because I didn't know how to buy a unit and how much it was and the rep I talked to was very nice. She told me, "Why don’t you call and get an estimate first because it takes a little while to get this. And then when you call with this, you’ll have an idea if you want to do it or not at this time.” So I called Christianson Plumbing, who was amazing, and they told me it wouldn't cost me $1600 for the whole thing. I was like, “Well, that is half the price of the other company." I also knew they were honest, and that they were going to do it. Christianson came but I didn't hear from AHS.

Then by Friday evening, I got a message from them telling me that they will give us $473. I thought that was a mistake. I was like, “What do you mean $473? You can’t buy a water heater with that." They were going to pay $1700 for the other company as far as I knew. And so, I called and asked for a manager. I then was put through somebody and I was told that I can only write a letter and send them the bill. I haven't done that but I intend to. So, it was not a good experience.

When the dishwasher came, the contractor who was sent to install it just walked in and said he couldn't do it because it's hardwired. My uncle was there and he said that all dishwashers are hardwired. The contractor didn't even try anything. So, I called American Home Shield and they had to send someone else out a week later.

When the contractor from Jones Electric came, he asked why the first contractor couldn't do it and I told him what he said. And he also told me that all dishwashers are hardwired. The second person was fine. He took care of the dishwasher and it's been good since the service. This contractor has also been to my house about two other times for my washing machine. However, about three weeks later, the freezer was thawing again so we called them back out and the repairman replaced a bunch of more parts. About a month after that, everything in my refrigerator was frozen so we called back up and the repairman filed a report saying that he can't fix it and they bought me a new one. It was a long process but American Home Shield was very acceptable. I just wished the contractor would have done more investigation and testing. He came out and was a nice guy. Maybe that's the way repairmen work today. They just replace parts and hope that it's going to be fixed. But all is good now.

To get a hold of them sometimes was very difficult. The first time I called, it was an hour and a half wait to get a hold of somebody. That was something that I was not happy with. Then, they gave me a different number to call. So I was a little more successful with getting a hold of somebody that way. American Home Shield should have a higher level of communication.

For instance, when they decide that they're going to replace my refrigerator. They told me a value, then go and buy one. I sent them the receipt but I didn't hear anything from them. Not even a "Thank you. We got your email." There was no communication at all. The check finally came and I wasn't too worried about it. In today's world, a click of a button, an email response will go a long way. I would tell my friends that they have to have American Home Shield. But what was neat was instead of saying that the compressor needed to be replaced, he opened up the whole air conditioner to see why the compressor wasn’t working. There were some shorted wires and he installed a hard start kit and was able to get the same compressor to start working again. He took his time to see what the issue was and resolved it. For that certain period of time that I used the air conditioner afterwards, it was perfect. It was easier to go through American Home Shield than it was to go with First American. We had a claim on a dishwasher and disposal which American Home Shield took care of but not until after they had a repairman come out to look at the dishwasher three times when he changed a couple of pieces on it but it still wasn't functioning properly. I told them at that point, that I was gonna write them a letter to the warranty company, so they promptly replaced the dishwasher.

Another claim is for a stove in the house and we've been smelling natural gas in the kitchen, so we turned the stove off. We thought that it was the cooktop of the stove. AHS sent somebody out and they replaced the cooktop after having somebody come out to look at it and find out that the cooktop wouldn't function at all. So, they turned everything back on and we started getting the gas smell again. I had them check the stove and American Home Shield said that they'll send a repairman out but they won’t really comment on what they can do. They just sent a repair person out. He was a nice older guy. He came out, pulled the oven out, looked at it and checked for gas leaks a couple of times but he can't seem to find it. I can certainly smell it when I come in.

He ran his meter and he said that the leak could be coming from under the house. He ran the meter inside the cabinets and the meter went off inside the cabinets which told me that the gas has been pulling up inside these cabinets. He said that we might have a leak under these cabinets, but there are no pipes there. The only pipe is under the house. He went on saying that there might be a leak under the house. But why do I smell it when the valve was turned on and when the valve is turned off, we couldn’t smell it anymore? So, there's something wrong with the meter. The meter needs to be calibrated or they need a newer one. So, I went out and bought one myself and I'm gonna test it. It's not a professional meter but at least it's supposed to detect a gas leak.

It has just been a real hassle. To this day we still have the gas off and the stove is still sitting there. The repair guys still can't find the leak. We're afraid to use the oven at this point and we're contemplating on replacing it. Our concern is that if the natural gas builds up and we’re not home and we turn the lights switch on, we could level the house. AHS just needs to replace the stove. Also, I called them and they got me on hold forever. They didn't really care. My next step after this is to have my attorney send them a demand letter to replace the stove and if they don't, then I'll sue them in small claims court.

My dryer stopped working completely. I called AHS and this was the second time I had somebody out for it. When the first tech came out, he thought he fixed it. But I had to call back. The second tech took his time, looked at it, analyzed the problem, and ordered the part. When he came back and checked it, he found out that it was not all the way fixed because there was something missing and he did that, too. He was hilarious and really amazing. The unit works perfectly fine now. The light bulb is off, but who needs light on a dryer. My son left its door open all night and I don’t know where the light bulb is to change it. So far, I have used AHS four times already and I never had any issues with them. Everybody was friendly and they knew what they’re doing.

In September, my mom found out that the stove wasn’t working. American Home Shield sent somebody out from 3 Boys Appliance who just said “yeah” and then came back out with a burner. But it didn’t work and the stove’s still broken. There wasn’t good communication either. They weren’t willing to take the time to help me understand what the situation was. They should know what needs to be done and it won’t take no more than 5 minutes of their time to talk to me. I didn’t know what to do. They told me to call American Home Shield but it was impossible to talk to a live person. My mom was usually on the phone for two to three hours on hold and she did that for five days. We also sent an email but nothing much was responded to in regards to the situation. So it has not been a pleasant experience.

Come December, American Home Shield finally agreed to replace the stovetop and ordered one. But when the guy from Dupar came out, he spent about five minutes in the house and he didn’t even take the stovetop out of the box. He lifted up the one that was still in there and said that the opening was too small. He wrote down on a piece of paper how much bigger we needed to fit the one that was in our living room. But when the two other guys came out, took the old stovetop out and put the new one in, the opening was too big. It became a huge mess. The opening was probably okay before and nobody was willing to take responsibility for the information they had given. They didn’t have anything nice to say about the first guy who came out and had made the mistake in the first place.

My mom read the fine print and it said that they were supposed to uncrate the stovetop. That wasn’t done the first time so he didn’t have any business telling my mom that the opening wasn’t the right size. If he had taken the time to take it out of the box like he should have and dropped it in the hole, then we could have sent it back at that time to let them know that it didn’t work. Instead, it was February and we spent six months trying to get a stove in. It was hard for us to cook and my mom was not happy.

Another company came and finally installed the stove, and the contractor was nice and he was helpful. American Home Shield told us that we could contact them about modifications but they didn’t do modifications. After six months of going back-and-forth with AHS and two appliance companies, we got the stove in. It works and we’re happy with it. But American Home Shield was difficult to do business with. I won’t recommend them to anyone but if anyone decides to go with them, they need to be sure to read every dot and every word because American Home Shield sure finds a lot of ways to not be helpful.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield was fine. The issue was for a plumbing leak in my upstairs bathroom and it got taken care of right away. I submitted the claim over the phone and I got through to someone right away. The claim representatives were very polite. American Home Shield tried to set something up, but the contractor didn’t contact me within 24 hours. So, I had to call the contractor and the first person that I talked to was very nasty and totally uncooperative about scheduling an appointment around my time within reason, and I was really worried about that. But when I called back, I spoke with a different person who was much more cooperative about scheduling. So, it went from something that was totally impossible to, “Oh, yeah. We can do that,” and the schedule got changed.

The guy who came to do the repair was very professional and he was absolutely fantastic, which made a big difference with my having to take time off from work. He came in and looked at the problem, and he said that he could fix it and that he had the part in his car. He also said that he’d be out of my house in 10 minutes and he was, which was great. So, I went back to work. That was the first time that I used American Home Shield at all and I’ve been pleased with their service.

And then, it took a week and a half for the part to get here and it was probably fixed within two weeks, max. The guy who came and fixed the dishwasher was really good. Since the repair, I have no problems with the dishwasher at all. I would recommend AHS. Having a warranty gives you peace of mind.

It got cold outside and no matter what I set the thermostat, my house stayed really cold because my heater wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield, and my interaction with their reps was nice. Everybody was great. They told me that a person from a heating and air company would call me and make an appointment. The AHS reps did that very promptly and everything was taken care of quickly. The contracting company that was sent out was wonderful and I love them. Tristan, the technician, went above and beyond, and he explained the whole system to me. I have a pretty unique furnace in my house and there's two of them. They are heat-pumps, but instead of having electric coils, when the heat gets past a certain temperature, there's actually gas as the auxiliary heat. His diagnosis was that the thermostats were just so old.

The mercury thermostats were about 10-degrees off in both directions, so they weren't able to kick the auxiliary heat on. And replacing the thermostats would get the auxiliary heat to work when it needed to work. The furnaces were fine, but the heat pumps didn't work well when it got below a certain temperature. The technician took a bunch of ice off of our unit because it rained, and then it froze, and then it rained, and it froze again. The temperature was fluctuating and it had frozen the fans, so he got that all checked up. And part of the concern was that it was making a terrible noise out there when the fan was kicking on, so we didn’t want to mess with that. We wanted a professional because I didn’t know how big of a problem it was, and Tristan resolved that issue. Then he told me what I needed to do that was really outside the scope of what he was going to do.

He said that if he replaced the thermostat, it was going to be with a really base model thermostat. He did as much as he could to repair it, which I don't think I would have even known to do nor would my husband have known to do, and then to really fix the problem in any kind of long-term since new thermostats are the answer. I would rather go with a smart thermostat and put that on there. So, I ended up buying new thermostats and I replaced them myself afterward and it fixed the problem. I was really happy with Tristan and with the contractor. He didn’t leave when everything was working quickly and he stayed a little bit more to get it working perfectly. If I were paying everything out of my own pocket, I would probably continue to use them. So I was very happy with the contractor. And so far, the contractors that American Home Shield works with have been very helpful.

I got a call from a tenant that a faucet was not putting out water. I called American Home Shield. Their reps were good but I had to tell them the issue with a sense of urgency. The only challenging part is always getting to a real person through the phone with AHS. They prefer for you to use their website which does not work for me. When I call, I want to push the button and get a representative immediately. The rep took my information, looked me up in the system and ran me out to a vendor, then I got a call from the plumber to schedule an appointment. The plumber came out within the next 48 hours.

He was very knowledgeable and he quickly diagnosed the problems and told me what was going on. He saved me some money because I was entitled to a new faucet as it just so happened that the brand that I chose had a lifetime warranty. He was able to go in the website, research it, and told me that he could call the company that made the faucet and they would send me a new one and he would come back to install it at no additional cost. So, I got a new faucet and the plumber came back to install the new faucet.

I would absolutely recommend AHS for another person who is looking to get a new warranty. Their pricing is a little bit higher than some of the competitors but I went with them primarily because of the brand name recognition. It would be better if they could still bring down the amount of time that it takes to get to a live voice because I had to push different buttons just to get to a live person.

I was not happy with the first contractors that came out. They didn’t come prepared to take care of the issue. I had water running down my basement walls and backing up from the sewer main. The guy came with an auger and no other tools. So, he couldn’t address the other issue while he was here. It took over a month to get somebody to come back here, but he didn’t fix the issue. Then they came back a third time and augered out the toilet, but it still didn’t fix the issue. They told me I needed a new toilet, so we went and got a new toilet, put the new one in and we're still having water leaks. AHS finally sent out a different company, but I'm still having plumbing issues.

I have been a policyholder for American Home Shield for a number of years. Over the past few weeks, I had a problem and they attempted to solve it. The heating in my house was not working properly and various people came out seven times to work on it but no one could fix the problem. I usually call when I submit a claim because sometimes I can request who the contractor would be if I had good luck with them before. Some of the people that came out just threw up their hands and asked me to get somebody else when they couldn't do it. That was frustrating.

I also couldn't tell how many hours I spent waiting for people to show up. They'd tell me they were running late then, they'd give me a time frame between 12 o’clock in the afternoon and 6 o’clock at night,. But at 6 o’clock at night, they were still not there and I was waiting until they showed up at 8 o’clock. While I understand that they were busy, I didn't get a whole lot of feedback from the people that I was waiting for that they might be on their way or if they were tied up. It was just difficult to deal with. I wasted a lot of time over January and February waiting for people then they didn’t show up or they didn’t have the equipment or they didn’t have the piece needed.

And since the heater wasn't fixed, we couldn’t stay in the house sometimes because it was freezing. It affected me because it cost me money to keep my family warm. In the end, the people American Home Shield sent out weren't fully capable of doing the job. Eventually, I had to get an outside person to solve it. But it was almost two months that we dealt with broken heating.

Again I expresses my dissatisfaction on having to wait so long for an emergency call. I asked if they could authorized me to find a repair shop on my own, but they refused. What can You expect from a home warranty company that is not able to have their contracted repair shops make an emergency call, or agree to reimburse the owner if he contact a repair company on his own? My 78 year old mother's boiler went out a Sunday late afternoon in March. She has an American Home Shield policy that covers her boiler. She called and only got a recording with no way to even reach a real person. She reported that her furnace went out when technically it is a boiler. She spent the night very cold with temperature getting down to 50 degrees.

American Home Shield called her back Monday morning and scheduled a person for Tuesday expecting my mother to spend another day and night in the cold. They said they called 3 repair places and no one could come until Tuesday. They also said that because she first reported it as a furnace and not a boiler that the time period to find her a repairperson started over again or an additional 48 hours. I think they should have put this as an emergency circumstance and not settled until they found a person for the same day. I also think if they could not find a person for the day, then they should pay the contractor that my mom found. They said they do this if they can't find someone in the allotted time of 48 hours.

This isn't a washer or dryer or dishwasher that a person can go without for a day or two, this is the heat for an elderly woman's house with outside temperatures of 50 degrees. I think this is unacceptable. I told my mom to call repair people until she found one that can come ASAP. The first place she called, she now has an appointment for today. If it was that easy for her to find someone, why is AHS having such a hard time? They don't seem to care about their customers. I called to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for 15 minutes only to be told there are no supervisors available. If I ran my business this way, I would be out of business.

They indicated this was not covered. The first estimate I received was $300 and later it jumped to over $1,000. I did not pay this, so Greenways left the unit on my front porch. American Home Shield did nothing to assist and they did not return my $100 service fee. My unit leaked. Since I had paid I wanted the Freon put in my current unit. They did not do that either. I contacted the BBB, they were of no assistance.

I believe as long as they pay their fee, the BBB will continue to recommend them. They attempted to collect the balance on document, however, I told them where they could go. They started sending me material again last year. I continue to return to sender. I request they stop sending mail to me, however, so I continue to return it. I am going to contact the police and see if there is something I can do to make them stop. It just creates more documents to be shredded

For issues like plumbing and A/C you would think they could have a vendor ready to go the very next business day, but it was more like 2 to 3 business days only to come out and say the services are not covered. After getting a independent contractor out to give me a totally different diagnosis, I sent AHS the report and want to appeal the decision. I never got a callback or a reply from their resolution team. So finally after the 3rd service request they refused to cover. I canceled their services. I’ve always submitted my claims with American Home Shield online, and then they send me an email back saying the contractor will be in touch with me, and they sure do. They arrange to come out to the house and do whatever it is that needs to be done, and they leave. I called a service call in for my swimming pool equipment and the person from Expert Pools came out. He did whatever he did and then the technician said it was all he can do at that time and I needed to call for another service call to finish the work. That’s where the problem started and I said it should be just one call because he hasn’t finished the work. I had to do another service call for him to finish the work, which he did, so I paid twice for the same thing. I felt like they wanted to get double for the same thing, and that was what they got.

I reached out to both the contractor and to American Home Shield. I told them it was the same situation and the same equipment, and it hadn’t been fixed. Both American Home Shield and the contractor said the same thing that plumbing was the problem. But it was the swimming pool plumbing. Nobody would listen and it was like dealing with robots. They were programmed to say certain things and I didn’t feel like I was talking to a human being where they can reason and listen and use their brains.

The issue was inconvenient and a little bit stressing, but they finished the repair on the second trip and it got taken care of. On earlier service calls, they were okay and it was an automatic thing. You go online, you register whatever it is you need work, and they send a technician out from a company. They fix it and they go their own way. Everybody gets paid and everybody is happy. On this particular case, it was sort of a misunderstanding and they wouldn’t budge nor listen and they wouldn’t reason. They just stuck to their belief that I got to have another service call.

I got a good initial response from American Home Shield concerning a claim I filed for our water heater. I did the claim over the phone and had a great experience with the rep. AHS was quick about getting in contact with someone that could give us an estimated time and how long it would take to get someone out. I also had some follow-up questions that were all answered satisfactorily. However, I was not entirely satisfied with the actual installation.

First, I did not get a replacement equivalent to what was there, as it was supposed to be in the contract. It’s a less powerful water heater and we do not get as much hot water out of it. Also, they put in something that was more appropriate for an apartment or a limited space installation. And because it was an extra compact size, they charged me an additional 400 something dollars for installation. It was not necessary that they made all those modifications. It would have taken a standard sized replacement, same as what we had. Before the installation, I made the point to them that there should be no need for all of these charges. And the contracting company said, “We do this several times a week. We always make these changes.”

And then, they put it on the floor, which is also not okay because it’s right next to a sump pump. So, that increases the chances of a failure in the future because it’s putting it in the way of potential water. So, I’m not happy about all that. I have tried bringing it up with AHS and I’m still following up on that. Also, what made me sad is that I have been with this company a long time, had good relationships with them, and had been comfortable with them in the past. I hope that this experience is not indicative of a change in their service orientation because if it is, I would not want to continue with them in the future.

I've seen several television commercials regarding home warranties and we talked with several friends who had either American Home Shield or a similar program. We thought it was a very good thing to have so we went ahead and got the protection so that in case something happens with the major appliances, we would have protection against some catastrophic bill or being without services for extended periods of time. We called American Home Shield and told them that we were having some plumbing issues. They said that they would get into contact with some of the companies that they used to fix those kinds of problems and they did. They sent out some repairmen to perform the services for us.

Both contractors sent were nice. But, one contractor still has not corrected the problem. They ordered some parts and when the parts came in, it wasn't everything that they needed. It was about two weeks before the initial set of parts came in. They came out last week to complete the job and as they opened the container with the parts, everything that they needed was not there so they had to order some more parts. The faucet still hasn't been repaired. But the other situation seemed to be taken care of professionally and I’m satisfied with it.

One of the repairs was a situation with our Jacuzzi tub. The panel across the entire bottom of the tub had to be taken out because that was the way to get to the working parts of the motor. But it wasn't caulked back very well so it was loose again. We had somebody out to do the caulking. Aside from that, the repair went fairly well. The tub seems to be working properly. Our interaction with the repair service guys went fairly well. They were competent and professional.

AHS is a great idea. It's wonderful to have coverage for situations that arise around the home. People will pay one service charging of $125 as opposed to hundreds and hundreds of dollars. And as long as American Home Shield will deal with reputable service repair companies everything should be fine. Hopefully, everything will go well with our faucets. These people are reputable and professional. There are companies offering a similar service so competition always make things a lot better.

The contractor was very professional and he took care of everything. He ended up having come out three different times because we had the issue happened again three times, but on the third time they just replaced the part instead of trying to patch it and we have not had the issue since then. It's the winter time so, not having working heat would definitely be a problem but we've only had that problem for 24 hours because they were able to handle the issue. They said AHS would call me and give me a choice for the replacement unit. Three days after, they called me and told me about the new microwave. They also said I could check the store if I liked it and I said okay. The contractors then took the old microwave and activated the new one. Then they cleaned up when they finished the job. It was a very good experience. I have a good microwave and I like the light in it. I used to have the old one on top of my stove and it had a light but it was always dark. But now, I can see when I cook.

The air-conditioner heating unit wasn't working and I had three different companies come in for that. The first one was two guys that didn't have a clue what they were doing and had no clue what was wrong. They said that they would get back to me but I didn't hear from them. The second company had somebody come out who said right away what the issue was and he was going to order the part but I never heard from him again. When I tried to call, there was no answer and they didn't call me back. If they can't find the part, if they don't know what to do, that's one thing. But at least answer my calls or call me back. The third company was great. Their tech went right to work. He couldn't get the part because the machine was obsolete, so he worked with American Home Shield to get us a brand new unit.

AHS is great when I talk to them but getting to talk to somebody there is almost impossible. I started filing my claims online because sometimes I have to wait at least an hour for somebody to answer. I really appreciate having AHS though. Everybody has been nice and tried to help. Even with the problems, I'm going to have them because I wouldn't be able to pay for the repairs myself. I would definitely recommend them.

American Home Shield's service was fine and they were pretty prompt. The most recent experience we had was a claim for a leak under our kitchen sink but the problems weren’t necessarily found by the plumber. Water was getting in and ruining our floor, and I don’t know why the leak wasn’t leaking anymore once he got there. We ran the sink and the water was not draining all over the place like it initially did when we needed them. But, they told me that if the problem that we saw persisted, we had 60 days to call them back and they can come out without charging us again. There was one other claim that I had submitted online, and it was for the air conditioner at the time. No one ever got back to us. Other than us being perturbed by it, it was unprofessional. We never received any kind of follow-up, whether it was email or a phone call from the company that was supposed to handle our claim.

An entire wall panel had gone out as far as the electricity was concerned. The switch plates and the electricity plugs were not working. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online, and it was very easy to go through the process. They responded immediately with the name of the company that would be taking care of it. The contracting company that AHS sent out was very professional and completely on time. They came in and got the situation resolved very quickly. They took about two and a half hours to figure out what was going on and to correct it. According to them, there was some wiring problem that caused the wall panel to go out. Then they walked me through and explained what was taking place and what they had done to rectify it. It was a very good experience, and I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

It's great though if I just want to call in a claim. But, all the contractors have been great. American Home Shield's website is fine and the claims process has met my expectations. I submitted an online claim for the plumbing issues that I had been having. The contractor came out to do some work but there were still some issues after they left, so when I called back in, the same ticket was opened. The problem was something unrelated to that, but we didn’t know what they were here to do. We just knew we were having problems. The plumber said he knew what the problem was and he could fix it but he couldn't at that time because it was not on the ticket. It seemed a little bit unproductive for everyone. And I was paying for them to come, and it took five days for them to come.

Also, they came out but they were not able to perform the work because it wasn't specifically on the ticket. I had to call back and go through the whole process all over again, which was a bit inefficient for everyone. I shared with AHS that it didn’t make sense that they were going to allow the plumber to leave the house. And I even explained to AHS that if that was a function of paying another payment or service fee, then I would pay AHS the service fee right at that time, just so they wouldn't let the plumber leave because I didn’t want to wait another five to seven days for him to come back. But AHS was unwilling to do that. They fixed the problem, though, and the work quality was fine. American Home Shield is okay and I'd probably recommend it based on what their fees are.

I went to work one day, everything was fine when I left, and my son was at home. He woke up and when he went into the bathroom, the toilet wouldn’t flush. He looked in his tub. His tub was full of dirty water. He also went into my bathroom and it was the same thing. Apparently, the system had everything backed up into the house. My first thought was that it was plumbing and it should be covered under American Home Shield, so I called them and I was connected right away. I told the rep exactly what was happening and she told me exactly what was covered and what wasn’t. She was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Then she said, “I will get somebody out there as soon as possible.” And sure enough, within two hours somebody was at the house.

The guy was great. My son said he was very knowledgeable, told him exactly what was happening, and went from there. He checked the bathrooms to look at the toilets and the tub, and then he went outside, did his thing. He snaked the line and it unclogged everything. My toilet, tubs and everything is fine now. However, he found that the pipe in our front yard was penetrated by tree roots. He determined it wasn’t covered so he gave a quote for digging up my front yard to repair the pipe for $2,800. He said it will happen again and as those roots continue to grow, it could back up again. So, he said, “You'd probably want to get it fixed.”

My son then had to sign something saying that he was here, saying that the repair itself wasn’t covered. We paid the 75 bucks, and everything was great. It was great interaction. At that point, I was looking for somebody to go ahead and do the repair because the quote was a little bit more than what I need to spend right now. I called around to see if there were cheaper options. It’s not detrimental to get it fixed right away because it’s a minor thing. My yard’s not flooded with sewer or anything, so we're okay for a little bit.

We've done business with AHS many years ago. I was married and we had them in the house that we bought in California and we've had such a great interaction with them back then. I just bought this house in Texas in July and when I was asked about my preferred home warranty, the first thing I said was American Home Shield. I wouldn’t go with anything else. I've recommended them guys to everybody I have talked to. If anybody ever says, “I need a home warranty, “I tell them, “You should go with American Home Shield. You can’t beat it.” My sister bought a contract after I told her about it, my ex-wife bought a contract after I told her about it, and a friend of mine from work got one.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years but I didn’t renew for a certain time then I went back so I've been with them for about ten years. I normally file a claim over the phone and they send somebody out within 24 hours but it’s the same company. AHS doesn’t have as many technicians in the area. The person I talked to was nice, but she put me on hold for a long time, 35-40 minutes, to find someone. It was cold that time and everybody was busy. If they have ten companies, then maybe somebody would not be busy.

I had two companies come out. The first one came out twice while the second company, once. The guys ordered parts. And after, the last guy said he didn’t need the parts. I don’t think their technician who was sent out had the skill-set to do what I needed to do then. And it seemed like they didn’t have the patience. There was a water hose on the water heater and the guys did everything but they told my husband that they don’t do water hose and if we wanted it cut, I got to go to Home Depot and they left. When I called, the technician said he would not come out. He was concerned that point whether he was blamed whatever was on.

Then the person on the second time was nice. He asked why there was water there. He kept working it like I was a patient. He kept on going to find out what was wrong. He did and the water had to come out of the hole. He reattached it and did a great job. I’m happy with American Home Shield and I’ve used the other people who have come up before. I would recommend them but they need to get some more organizations that they subcontract work to. It’s always Tech Air Conditioning that they send and the owner will call and he’s nice. But competition is stiff. I think that in the Washington DC metropolitan area, they need to get more than one organization or contractor.

However, the contractor said that I lived in a such a bad area and that they would have to do it first thing in the morning and that's why they couldn't schedule us. But as it turned out, a tech came in the afternoon, changed the thermostat and something else, and the water heater is fine now.

I also told him that I had a slow drain in our bathroom and he said that he wasn't allowed to do that. So, nothing was done with that. Every time I call AHS, I’m on hold for over 40 minutes and I haven't been feeling well so I didn't have the time to call them about the slow drain and there's no way of submitting that online. I moved the refrigerator from its position and I heard this banging noise, something like somebody’s gurgling and their last breath is being taken, so I contacted American Home Shield. I did that online and their website was really easy to navigate. It took three days for someone to get in contact with me and they had to come out from somewhere else because there was no local thing going on and the contractor came from about 60 miles away. When the guy came here, he explained to me that if I had to move it, I should not jerk it as hard as I did because of the way the stuff was mounted on the bottom. In other words, I should move it gently and there was really nothing wrong with the refrigerator.

There was another call that I put in with AHS that concerned another issue that I had here. First, I had a Titan heater and the heater broke so the local company came here and fixed it. However, they created another problem. They over-tightened what they were putting in, so the tank reservoir’s filter started leaking. I didn’t know where the leak was coming from, so I called them again personally. They came out here and they treated it with some O-ring they put that in, but it was still leaking so I put a call into American Home Shield to report it leaking.

They said that it should be a follow-up call by that company, but that company never responded and never came. Nobody has contacted me and it was the same time that call for a refrigerator was put in. But that has really nothing to do with American Home Shield. And I would still recommend AHS to all of my family members and to anybody I can because I’ve been with them for a number of years and the experience has been rewarding.

The refrigerator works perfectly now, just like it was before. That meant a lot because I have a family of five and I was worried about things going bad. A lot of stuff did go bad while the fridge was not working properly and it was very important that it got taken care of in a timely fashion.

I only had to pay the deductible and there was nothing out of pocket after the job was completed so it was satisfying. We had a microwave problem about a year and a half ago. I almost called the police because the guy that was sent was yelling back at me and I was yelling at him. I have nothing against foreign people but I couldn’t understand what he was saying to me a lot of time. I called AHS so they don’t send that company again to me. It was a really bad experience. They sent somebody different the next time and I was really pleased with him. We also went for five weeks of them coming out a couple of times ordering parts. And then, the guy ordered the wrong part. It was a $200 microwave and we could have bought a microwave for what I paid AHS for the last four years. I was going to cancel AHS because I was really disappointed in them a couple times.

I was grateful because now, my washer is acting up. In the final spin cycle, it is bouncing around so much a lot of the times that it bounces stuff off of the top of it. Another main issue which occurs randomly is that the soap dish, where the soap is poured in, at the end of washing, it will be filled with clear water in it so, we would empty it out, put the soap in, then we do laundry. That’s not normal. The third issue was sometimes, the water at the clothes is a bit even so, the clothes spin all the way. We called AHS to submit a claim and it went a lot smoother than I had in the past. It was really quick and I was really surprised that I got a call back the next day. Where before, it had taken a couple of days in finding out who would be coming out.

Somebody came out and he was very informative. He said that we were putting too much soap on our clothes because it was the high efficiency. He tested it and it didn’t do it for him. I said to him that I have faith in him but he didn’t do anything, and probably, it is going to happen again. He replied that I simply call back if it happens again. Two days after he left, it happened again. It is not fixed yet so, I will be calling back.
