I’ve been having trouble with the heat pump from our refrigerator for months. And finally, American Home Shield seems to be answering their phones quicker. It used to take an hour to get through someone on the phone. It takes two weeks for an appointment with the contractor. And the third time the tech came, he still did not fix it. Every time he comes, I have to completely empty the refrigerator overnight and let it defrost for 24 hours. This is the fourth time he came out and it’s not fixed. He has ordered the part and it takes two weeks for the part for a Samsung to come in. Then I have to schedule an appointment and it takes up to two weeks to get him to come back out. I've been dealing with this for six months.
At one point, I realized that this contractor doesn’t know what he’s doing, and I've already asked if somebody else could be sent out. He keeps coming and evidently, he’s not familiar with this item and he said he’s the only one certified here who can do it. In the meantime, I’m only able to keep a few things in the fridge. I’m ready to take it out in the front yard but it’s a two-year-old, $1500 fridge so I can’t afford to just get rid of it.
I usually submit my claims online but because I've been having the same issue, the website won’t let me do it so I have to call it in. The reps who answer the phone are friendly. I rarely speak to anyone from American Home Shield. I avoid calling them because it usually takes way too long to call. On the other hand, the company AHS used for the air conditioner was really good at what they do and they give quick service. However, you’re stuck with one person regardless if they can’t perform the service. We had an electrician before who kept coming to fix the same issue and he didn’t know what he was doing.
I wouldn’t suggest AHS. It’s important that if I want to call someone to fix an issue, I know that they can take care of the job. If I have an electrical problem, I want to call the electrician that I know can handle the job. It’s not worth the hassle of having somebody that you don’t know come out and they’re not accountable to anyone, not to me and not to AHS.
Hello, Mrs. Abad. I am so sorry to hear that you had to continually have service on your Samsung refrigerator. That process to wait for parts and the tech to schedule another visit is tedious, to say the least. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

Our sink drain wasn't working and we ran water down, trying to figure out what it was. After two weeks, we gave up and filed a claim with American Home Shield online. At that time, I also called to update my payment information because when they tried to run my old credit card that I was closing out, the transaction got declined. I updated everything and they told me that it would just fill everything automatically and not to do a payment over the phone because, otherwise, I'd get billed twice. The contractors they sent did a really good job. They fixed the issue for us and we haven't had an issue with our kitchen sink since. I've told the people that I work with about American Home Shield. I have a friend who bought a fixer-upper type of house and they were really concerned about some of the stuff going on. And I told them that AHS really took care of us when we needed to get the furnace replaced in our house in Ohio.

Having a warranty on a property is very valuable and I'd tell a friend to do it with American Home Shield. But I don’t use my AHS warranty enough and that's my bad. My latest claim was for my oven which was not igniting. Depending on my mood, I either emailed or called AHS to submit a claim for repair. The interactions I normally have with the claims reps have been fine. For my claim on the oven, the technician wanted to come within a day, but I was unable to get away from work, so we had to schedule the service call further out in the week. He came right away and we had a very nice interaction. Since the repair, the oven has been awesome in its performance.

I received great customer service from American Home Shield and every issue I had so far has been resolved. When I had a broken pipe, I file a claim online and their website was good and easy to navigate through. I asked if I could get expedited service and the tech came on the afternoon of the same day. He was very professional and excellent. I would recommend American Home Shield.

My electric bill was very high and certain portions in the heater were not heating. Apparently something was broken in there. I went online and then filed a claim with American Home Shield. Though I would not have preferred to do it online, I would have preferred to speak with a human being, but very quickly the system said that the reps were very backed up and that wait times experienced were longer than usual. But it turned out for the good. It was easy breezy online. I just filled it up and they got hold of me very quickly.
And the contractor was great. It looks like he runs a good honest business, informative, helpful and cheerful. I’m running a thermometer in different areas because he made some recommendations, like the system might be old and it didn't have certain things that newer systems have. It's not as cold as before and I haven't gotten a full bill but I think the house is warmer just based on hand.
One thing, however, was the payment process. I pay and then the website doesn't show a transaction number or my credit card’s last 4 digits. It didn't seem like a real good receipt. It just says, "Oh, you paid." And then I can browse through the website and click somewhere there for contractual terms. But if I wanted to save, take a picture or print out of my receipt from the renewal, it didn't seem very comprehensive or informative.

The garbage disposal in my kitchen sink wasn’t coming on and was leaking. I called American Home Shield to try to resolve it and it was fairly quick. The next thing I knew, I had an appointment. Then the plumbing contractor got to the house within three days. My mom came over to the house and helped out while they did the repair, which took less than 30-minutes so it was nice and easy. My experience with AHS has been good but I have recently been thinking about the overall cost versus the overall usage that we want to because I haven't really had too many items.

The ceiling leaked and the leak went into the kitchen ceiling, so it broke. It was probably about a week or two ago when my wife called American Home Shield and filed the claim. So far, I haven't had anybody call to do the work. But American Home Shield has always taken care of things and what I've had to have them do, they've done well.

We have had several issues with American Home Shield to the point where I'm considering canceling. I bought the policy for our kids and I bought one for us. They were the ones that have had several claims and the worst one was their furnace went out on them in November, and they had a newborn and they live in Wisconsin. So, it was cold and it took two months for it to get resolved. That was ridiculous especially if there’s newborn. AHS told us to go buy a space heater, but we wanted the furnace to get taken care of. And so, they approved something, but they went the cheap route and it didn’t take care of the issue. The wrong part got ordered and it was not a good situation, so I was really disappointed in how American Home Shield handled it. It was also very difficult to get a hold of anyone.
We’ve been on the phone for a couple of hours at times waiting to get through. We have had issues with paying the service call, which was fine, but then if they have to come back out and it's not our fault, we’re asked for the service call to be waived. But we have had issues with them doing that and sending our past due notices when they say they’re waiving that fee.
The appliance guy that had been going out was very nice and very capable. He would say, “This needs to be done and this needs to be done to fix the issue,” but we’d have trouble getting American Home Shield to approve that. And then, if we want to call or talk to someone, we're back to the process of hanging on the phone and we don’t have a number that we can call direct and get a hold of someone. we have to through the process every time. We told a friend about American Home Shield and he investigated them and said, “No, way.” He wouldn’t use them because their ratings and the complaints were so bad. I have a daughter that works in the insurance industry and she's the one that recommended American Home Shield. She lives in California and she has used them and there's a bigger pool to draw from for getting new service and getting it fast.
I am very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. They need to make customer service a priority as far as for being available to us. I purchased the policy for my daughter and it's gotten really confusing. Eventually, AHS took care of stuff, but it's been a really frustrating process and the furnace thing went on way too long.
Good morning, Jona. I apologize that you or your family member(s) had issues with getting service requests resolved in a timely manner. Especially in cold winter months. We will have a Social Media Specialist reach out to you to discuss your concerns.

We had flickering in the house and half the house went out. We had a private electrician out and he got us back online by working around something electrical. He also told us we needed a new panel for $350, but the home warranty covers it. American Home Shield’s call center has a ridiculously long wait time most days so I filed the claim online. But the first electrician they referred didn’t have anybody to send out. They were saying that somebody would come out 10 days later.
The big problem was canceling out of the first claim and opening a new one. We wanted a change of person so we weren't going to file a new request because that would cost $75 again. But my husband gave them a credit card that when they switched to the new company, they passed out that charge. But two electricians were called out through the home warranty for our first opinion and second opinion, and when he had another charge, I thought it was for the second opinion and I was grumpy about that. AHS didn’t tell us what was happening and that they needed the card for the charge to go back. It was as if they reversed the charge on the first company they referred. But we didn’t hear about it until the email that said we were more than a week and the links went on our payments. It was a communication issue.
My husband was here for the first opinion and he was happy with the professionalism. He asked if the electrician could do it but the electrician told my husband that AHS would want a second opinion since they don’t like paying for boxes. I missed the phone call to get the second opinion scheduled and that ran a delay of a full 24 hours. Nonetheless, the second opinion was also perfectly professional. They both agreed that it’s a 40-year-old panel and it just went and gone. The first opinion told us that they couldn't actually do the install for two days. We were still having flickering and some arcing inside the box which was done to get us back online. So I told the second opinion to do it as quickly as possible. They told us that they could do it the next day and that they would reach out to AHS and get that approved.
The work was fine and the boxes were placed. We're still having a little bit of flickering but BGE said it isn't theirs and we're not having any arcing inside the box. It wasn't flickering when Mayday, who did the repair, came out either. So it was either the utility, which is what our private electrician thinks, or there were minor intermittent disconnection problems somewhere on our wall. At this point, we have a new box and an old house that has some minor house issues. I'm happy electrically even though it's not perfect. Overall, I was pleased enough with AHS to renew my contract for the next year.

Our furnace had gone out overnight. We filed a claim online and the contractor was out here that next morning. I had to leave so, we left the door open for the technician. While I was gone, they came in and fixed it before I even got back home. I never saw anybody but it was great. It was nice to come back home to a warm house because it was really cold that day. We’ve only had to use AHS just a few times, but it has always been a really great service and it has always been handled very, very well.

Our microwave had burned out. A man showed up and he did have a problem trying to isolate the issue, but once he sorted through the wires, he was able to put in a new part. It began to function, and it's been working fine ever since. He actually had to leave once or twice to get the right part, but once he did, it worked beautifully just like it did before it blew out. It was done properly. It was perfect. The man seemed to know what he was doing. I was very pleased as I have been in the past with the people AHS recommends. And whenever I call in, everybody was extremely helpful.

A fan was stuck in my furnace and I submitted a claim using American Home Shield for my heating. I did it online and the website was user-friendly. All I did was pull up their website and put in my information because I had already set up my account. I just logged in and selected the appliance that I was having problems with. The technician came in after about two or three days when I set up the appointment and the interaction was fine. He was a nice gentleman and I told him what the problem was and showed him where the furnace was. He went down and took a look at it. At first, he couldn't figure out what was going on with it and he said to check everything that picked out what was going on with it. It worked for a day but then the next day, it wouldn't work in the morning so I had to call them back.
They sent someone out with him who was more experienced and he was the one who found out that the problem was actually the fan. The furnace has been excellent ever since. Having a warranty on the property is very valuable. I'm getting what I can't afford but I need it. If it's really major stuff and they can't fix, they will try to replace it to the best of their ability or try to fix it.

The service can be good if you're not in a hurry when something needs to be replaced. If you need something right away, there is red tape and then communication issues between the company and whoever is providing that service. Replacing a small hot water heater took the better part of a week-- then I was charged $75 for the visit plus $300. for installation costs that weren't included. This plus the $75. monthly fee made the transaction indefensible. When I called to cancel my contract a couple months later, which I've had for a year or more, I was informed that AHS would charge me to cancel-- $75.00. That's appalling!
I understand your concerns with the noncovered cost you paid to have your water heater replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and address the concerns.

My husband took out American Home Shield last June 2017 so we tried to connect them and we couldn't get no-one on the line and I stayed on the phone todays to get help but no. There was none available to help us... So now we called about a plumbing problem and still they wanted us to wait for 5 days before they could get anyone out to fix it but they don't care about the problem. I would recommend going to with the best STARK plumbing. They always on time and hesitate about coming to help. They are the best so we cancelled out with American Home Shield and we will be going back to Old Republic where they care and helps.
SO AMERICAN HOME SHIELD I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND NO ONE TO YOU and NOT EVEN A DEAD CAT TO YOU. All we was promised a refund because you all are doing liars. Y’all need to stick to the your word. Thanks for nothing American Home Shield. We thought y’all was better than the rest but you all are liars and money theft. (Money is the root of all "evil". Thank again for nothing.)

There are some things that American Home Shield does well eventually but they have the worst customer service. If we need to talk to a person, we need to take a half a day off of work and we need to be prepared to be on hold and sometimes disconnected. I just discovered their Facebook page and there are a lot of comments. People feel like AHS is doing a terrible job in general. They send out contractors that don't know how to do the work or do the least amount of work. It's like getting the runaround and maybe their true motto if they were honest, like if we were in the backroom of their company where nobody is listening, "Look, just make it as difficult as possible. They'll keep paying us and they'll just stop calling us 'cause it's too much of a frustration."
We've had plumbing issues in the past where they came out two or three different times before they finally truly fixed the problem with the back of our toilet. It's something that we could do for ourselves but we have this policy so we're trying to get some value from what we're paying for. We also have an air conditioning system and we found out that the contractors will not work with AHS because they don't get paid. Contractors don't get paid just to be on the phone for so long waiting to speak to somebody at AHS to get authorization to do the repair. So, the company that worked on the air conditioning system refused to do it and won’t speak and work with AHS. The better contractors might have refused to work with AHS just because of the business practices.
Either AHS doesn’t have enough people for the amount of account that they are getting paid to service or they have a bad business plan. We have an air conditioning system that only one company in our area services so we have to get outside authorization. There is no computer or email means to do this. We have to get on the phone for 30, 45 minutes. And then once we get to a person, they typically say, "Well, this department doesn't handle that. You'll need to speak to so and so, or this other department," and they usually don't offer to transfer us or do any of that. They would give us the phone number and then we can call and redo the wait. And then, the contractor has to call in but does not want to because they needed to be paid for their time and no one pays them for the time that they're sitting on the phone with AHS.
We've been with American Home Shield for a few years and dealt with tons of frustrations and we are at the point now where we're deciding if we should not have a policy at all and if that would be better than the frustration and the delays in getting repairs done versus the benefit. It's something we really have to scratch our head to decide whether or not we're going to continue on with them. A simple solution is to have enough people on staff that we can speak to a person in a reasonable amount of time. I don't want to waste my valuable time or do they want to pay me my salary for the amount of time that I'm waiting on hold. It’s upsetting working with American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the leaks and plumbing issue repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

The numbers on the pad of the garage door opener were coming off and when I tried to push the button, I had to hold it down to close the garage door. But the garage door wouldn’t close. And the bottom part of the door came off too. I normally type the claim in online but for some strange reason, I couldn’t sign in to my account that time so I called American Home Shield. My pool had a noisy pump. I went online and submitted a claim with AHS. That was my first experience with them and going around their website was really easy. The tech from Watertight, the contractor they sent out, was a great communicator, professional, and knew exactly was he was doing. Then, there was an additional item that was loose which the company came out the next day for even though it was not part of the claim. They also repaired something else for free. If all my experiences had been like that, I'd be totally pleased. However, I had an awful experience last Wednesday. It started good, but it ended badly. I had a Vent-A-Hood above my stove which is the draft that sucks the air out when I’m cooking and it’s a very large piece of equipment. That had not been able to be repaired, so they replaced it, and that whole process was incredibly smooth.
But when it came to the installation, the person they initially assigned to me was completely incompetent and unprofessional. I had three interactions with him over the phone. Then, finally, on the day of the installation, an hour and a half after he was supposed to be here in a 9:00 to 1:00 window, he got rude and defensive with me. Twice that day, he called and asked for my address and if the claim was for the dishwasher. I told him it was for the hood over the cabinet like I told him the other three times we talked. He then asked if it was the one that pops up when you’re cooking behind the stove. So, I clarified that it was not that, and that it was the one that hangs in the cabinet which is 48 inches wide and 24 inches deep. He also asked me to send him pictures of the item that he needed to be working on but I refused to send them because I’ve already clarified that with him before.
Then he started telling me all the things that went wrong with his first job. I told him that I was not asking for an explanation. I reminded him that I called him last Saturday and he told me he could do this job. But now he was saying that he might need to stop and get a second person to help me. So I asked him if he was going to pick up a day laborer and bring someone he has never met. I’ve never had that experience when I called and booked someone with AHS. I always assumed that the contractors were competent.
I called American Home Shield to ask for someone else and it took me two hours on the phone with them. At first, they told me that he was the only person I could use and but I told them that I didn’t feel comfortable with this guy after my phone calls with him. They doubted me and called him about it. Then they said that he was just asking for a picture of what it was he was doing. But I told them that when I called him to schedule last Saturday and I clarified if he has done this before, I would have been happy to send him pictures and explain, but he insisted that he has done it hundreds of times. I had to go to the escalation department and eventually, AHS worked it out. The second guy I talked to was really nice about it and he understood.
I had a plumbing claim, too, and I've had to follow-up with F and L Plumbing, the company they assigned to me, numerous times. They closed out the tickets before the job was done and the contractors also didn’t call back to the office and clarify what the next step was. But once I called the front office, they talked to the contractor and they wrote it in. We’re still waiting on one piece, which is a little unfortunate, but nothing that didn’t get resolved. I’m going to continue with AHS and I would recommend them to a friend. My whole family uses them. They switched around to others but always went back to them. So far, I don’t have an unrealistic expectation of who’s coming into my house to work on things but I have the confidence that if it’s not done, I could call AHS and they’d send someone else out.

When the faucet on our kitchen sink broke, I placed a call on a Sunday and there was a man here at 9:00 in the morning on Monday which was unbelievable. The contractors took care of the problem and the faucet has been great since they were here. Our washing machine started leaking and it was not filling properly. I had a problem with the dryer, too. I called American Home Shield to let them know that I needed service. The contractor was very easy to work with. He tried to explain everything and we went over everything together to make sure there wasn’t anything that we could do for the problem.
They tried to fix the dryer and the dryer was working fine. And I was unaware that they were even going to have the washing machine replaced but they decided because of the way that it was. They can’t fix a raw set and it would be best to replace it. I was very happy because I didn’t have to deal with “Let’s see if this works, let’s see if that works.” We got a computerized washing machine so the brains are expensive and in the end, it is a little bit more convenient for everybody. When we needed our ice maker fixed, the technician that came out was very, very good. He got the job done and explained to us what was wrong and why it happened. We also had our microwave replaced a year ago, but we didn't realize back then that American Home Shield only pays for standard items. Our microwave was chrome covered, and we only got reimbursed for a white faced microwave. It was no big deal because we didn't read the fine print, but it should be right there where you can see it better. They should put that in bold print somewhere, "We replace standard items." It's not replacing what you have, it's replacing what you pay for. And what American Home Shield pays for is something different. And that's a little misleading.

I'm experiencing the third strike on American Home Shield that’s related to the compressor. The air conditioning was working fine after we purchased the house in July last year. It was when the heat was being asked to come on the heat pump and the problem has been with the heating side. The AC side has been working except where the compressor has actually failed to do either one of them so the initial consensus and diagnosis back in January was that the compressor was bad. The compressor was replaced through American Home Shield's vendor. But that compressor was determined to be a failure and they replaced it in February. The other problem was there was a delay in the time process on the first bout we waited.
And now in March, when it was warm, the AC was working great as far as cold. And when I got back from a trip out of town, the temperature had dropped and the heat was now switched on automatically, nothing outside as far as the heat pump is running and only the blower inside was running. And so that's when I called in. The breaker was open. We reset it and tried the AC, and that’s what I'm doing again right now but it seems to be opening up the breaker so my problem is what the actual problem is.
The contractors have been fine although the vendor was the problem. And the one thing that was difficult was when the original replacement went bad and they determined that the second compressor replacement was also bad and they were going to replace it. They said I had to go back through American Home Shield to initiate another request. I said that the problem was on their end and I didn’t want to be charged again for another visit, which didn’t happen. They said that they have closed the request and they needed to get it re-initiated. And now we've got this third bout and I told them that I'm not calling American Home Shield to deal with this thing. This is their problem that they need to get fixed. They should talk to American Home Shield and they need to follow up on this because they were the last ones out here. And now it has gone cold again and the heat is doing the same thing that it did originally back in January.
My bigger complaint with American Home Shield is their vendors’ delay in getting us the part. Maybe they should pay a little more money for somebody in the local area to supply the compressor instead of dealing with the vendor so I would feel satisfied and not disgruntled. So, wherever they got it from and whatever time frame, it took a certain amount of time and there was always a chance they could have said, "Hey, American Air Care, do you have a compressor as compatible there? Can you get this done for them?” That's what they should have done.
My wife sells American Home Shield to clientele so we get a little bit skittish on the purchase side of it as buyers and she is not looking favorably at American Home Shield at this time. She's a sales type realtor up in the Atlanta area and what she does as a peace offering for people that are a bit hesitant in the purchase is to offer American Home Shield on her behalf and her paying for it. So, she's going to think about it now.
I understand your concerns with the heating and air conditioner issues you have been experiencing since January. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

I tried to file a claim with American Home Shield and they rejected it. They have an online system that does not work. It cancels you out when you're trying to submit a claim. So it doesn't let you to complete the process you just have to constantly go through it. The website itself has to reboot. And I actually tried in different locations -- the County Library, at work, at home and I had the same experience with each one every time.
Customer service at AHS is terrible. They have to hire more people or work on their phone system but just being able to talk to somebody will definitely help. It took me six hours on the phone to finally get someone at American Home Shield. I called three times and I waited two hours at a time. But once I got a hold of someone she was helpful. My claim with the water heater was perfect. The professionalism of the contractor impressed me on how they handled the work themselves. They themselves had to struggle getting with American Home Shield to authorize the corrective action. I think they waited about an hour and a half to talk to somebody. Even the realtor that we used said she'll never use them again. Go elsewhere.
Hi, Marco. AHS has definitely heard our customers loud and clear and we have made huge improvements in our call centers to get that hold time down to a minimum. I apologize that you had to wait to speak with someone and that you had some issues with the website as well. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

I have a refrigerator that stopped working. I called American Home Shield on the phone and was able to speak to a rep who was courteous. The process of submitting a claim was speedy and straight to the point. American Home Shield got a contractor out to the location fast. The contractor was on time, very courteous, and professional. He diagnosed the problem quickly and wasn't in the location very long. The whole process went very well and I got a refrigerator that works now. I recommend American Home Shield.

I had to have my garage door closed and working and I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and check it. The customer service reps I dealt with spoke well and took care of everything. I also had a great experience with the contractor and he cleaned up behind himself. The door is working fine now and it stopped going down and coming up. AHS should continue to do what they're doing. They're recommendable and worth investing in.

I had a heat pump that didn’t have any refrigerant in it and I called American Home Shield to get it looked at. We already had a separate company come out and do inspections twice a year and that’s how I found out about the issue with it. When I called American Home Shield, they said they'd have to send one of their people out. So, I paid to have their person come out and they inspected it, confirmed what the first people had said, and eventually turned in the paperwork to AHS.
At that point it was a cash payout which I have not received yet and I just replaced the system outright because I don’t want to play this game of filling it up. My out of pocket would’ve been four times what they were going to pay me. But the staff of AHS were phenomenal the entire time. When I got a hold of somebody each time they were always super helpful in explaining the process. And at one point when I was curious about what was going on and I hadn’t heard anything from them, the rep was like, “Do you mind being put on hold?" I’m being put on hold so she could get the information from the contractor, which was not a problem. And then she called them up and then came back and told me what the problem was.

The temperature of the refrigerator was fluctuating. We had a repairman come out and he replaced the part. However, about three weeks later, the freezer was thawing again so we called them back out and the repairman replaced a bunch of more parts. About a month after that, everything in my refrigerator was frozen so we called back up and the repairman filed a report saying that he can't fix it and they bought me a new one. It was a long process but American Home Shield was very acceptable. I just wished the contractor would have done more investigation and testing. He came out and was a nice guy. Maybe that's the way repairmen work today. They just replace parts and hope that it's going to be fixed. But all is good now.
To get a hold of them sometimes was very difficult. The first time I called, it was an hour and a half wait to get a hold of somebody. That was something that I was not happy with. Then, they gave me a different number to call. So I was a little more successful with getting a hold of somebody that way. American Home Shield should have a higher level of communication.
For instance, when they decide that they're going to replace my refrigerator. They told me a value, then go and buy one. I sent them the receipt but I didn't hear anything from them. Not even a "Thank you. We got your email." There was no communication at all. The check finally came and I wasn't too worried about it. In today's world, a click of a button, an email response will go a long way. I would tell my friends that they have to have American Home Shield. I'm an insurance agent and it's one of the products that we offer. There's a bit of room for improvement for American Home Shield but overall the experience with them was very good.

I’ve used AHS before for a couple other things and the experience was better. The whole problem started with that crappy ASAP company. They didn't do a good job and they overpriced it. Now, I'm thinking that AHS' warranty were promises. One more shot like this and it will be spilling. Don’t do American Home Shield.
My water heater was leaking so I called them. I couldn't call until Sunday morning but when I got through, they told me that ASAP would come. They didn’t come on that Sunday. On Monday morning, I asked them when was ASAP coming out and they told me that my case was not a priority so they'll come out Tuesday. That time, my water was running out of the water heater and was flowing down in my garage, flooding it and the water was going down the street. They finally called me Tuesday morning and told me that the contractors will come Tuesday night. The garage was flooded at this time. The contractor agreed with me that the water heater was obviously rusted and busted. He, however, did nothing. He was horrible. My husband was here at that time and the contractor told him that he would shut down the water and he would request for a new one. We assumed that he turned the water off so we didn’t check it all night.
When the cleaning lady came the next morning, she told us that there was water running everywhere. The garage was flooded and the water was running down the street. The contractor didn't turn the water off. Then he left an estimate of $3000 to fix the water heater or get a new one. I thought that was extreme since I knew water heaters don't cost that much. But they said that AHS would cover $1700 of it and we will be responsible for the $1300, which still seems a lot considering you can get a new water heater for $800. I called the guy on Wednesday but I couldn't get to him. I then called AHS and I told the rep that the price was overriding and that the guy was horrible. He told me that there was a buyout and then I can hire whoever I want. He told me that it would take a day or two so I told him that they need to rush because the water was still down the street and it was Thursday morning then.
The contractor then came out and shut the water down. I called again because I didn't know how to buy a unit and how much it was and the rep I talked to was very nice. She told me, "Why don’t you call and get an estimate first because it takes a little while to get this. And then when you call with this, you’ll have an idea if you want to do it or not at this time.” So I called Christianson Plumbing, who was amazing, and they told me it wouldn't cost me $1600 for the whole thing. I was like, “Well, that is half the price of the other company." I also knew they were honest, and that they were going to do it. Christianson came but I didn't hear from AHS.
Then by Friday evening, I got a message from them telling me that they will give us $473. I thought that was a mistake. I was like, “What do you mean $473? You can’t buy a water heater with that." They were going to pay $1700 for the other company as far as I knew. And so, I called and asked for a manager. I then was put through somebody and I was told that I can only write a letter and send them the bill. I haven't done that but I intend to. So, it was not a good experience.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The heater didn’t work. I made a phone call to American Home Shield and the first two guys that they sent out didn't fix it. Each one found something wrong and thought they fixed it but they didn't. The heater would come on then it would go off or didn’t stay on. Then it kept heating and would never shut off. I called American Home Shield back and the third guy they sent figured out that it was a thermostat problem. He was really on top of it and he finally fixed it. But it was over a period of time by the time we got the repair done.
What got me was I couldn't get the original guy back out. I called the contractor's cell and he told me to go through the warranty company first. The same thing happened with the second tech. When I called American Home Shield, they always sent a new guy out from a new company so it was a little frustrating. Each time, I had to make a new appointment and it always took several days waiting for the next guy. Their system must not work that way. The first two techs should’ve also figured out that the issue was with the thermostat because that was usually the case.

In September, my mom found out that the stove wasn’t working. American Home Shield sent somebody out from 3 Boys Appliance who just said “yeah” and then came back out with a burner. But it didn’t work and the stove’s still broken. There wasn’t good communication either. They weren’t willing to take the time to help me understand what the situation was. They should know what needs to be done and it won’t take no more than 5 minutes of their time to talk to me. I didn’t know what to do. They told me to call American Home Shield but it was impossible to talk to a live person. My mom was usually on the phone for two to three hours on hold and she did that for five days. We also sent an email but nothing much was responded to in regards to the situation. So it has not been a pleasant experience.
Come December, American Home Shield finally agreed to replace the stovetop and ordered one. But when the guy from Dupar came out, he spent about five minutes in the house and he didn’t even take the stovetop out of the box. He lifted up the one that was still in there and said that the opening was too small. He wrote down on a piece of paper how much bigger we needed to fit the one that was in our living room. But when the two other guys came out, took the old stovetop out and put the new one in, the opening was too big. It became a huge mess. The opening was probably okay before and nobody was willing to take responsibility for the information they had given. They didn’t have anything nice to say about the first guy who came out and had made the mistake in the first place.
My mom read the fine print and it said that they were supposed to uncrate the stovetop. That wasn’t done the first time so he didn’t have any business telling my mom that the opening wasn’t the right size. If he had taken the time to take it out of the box like he should have and dropped it in the hole, then we could have sent it back at that time to let them know that it didn’t work. Instead, it was February and we spent six months trying to get a stove in. It was hard for us to cook and my mom was not happy.
Another company came and finally installed the stove, and the contractor was nice and he was helpful. American Home Shield told us that we could contact them about modifications but they didn’t do modifications. After six months of going back-and-forth with AHS and two appliance companies, we got the stove in. It works and we’re happy with it. But American Home Shield was difficult to do business with. I won’t recommend them to anyone but if anyone decides to go with them, they need to be sure to read every dot and every word because American Home Shield sure finds a lot of ways to not be helpful.

We've replaced a lot of things in the house and we finally decided that we didn't want to mess with that anymore. We bought American Home Shield so that if something broke down we could have somebody else come in and try to fix it for us. I would tell friends to get them, too. One time, my dryer would no longer turn on. I would turn the knob and try to get it to turn on but was intermittent at best. It was a timer problem which was also linked to the memory or the system that tells whether or not the stuff is dry.
I filed an online claim with American Home Shield and navigating through their website was wonderful. Then the contractor from Defender Maintenance came within a couple of days. He was phenomenal and thorough. My dryer is 20 years old and there were multiple parts that the problem could have been. Instead of just ordering one and delaying everything by weeks, he ordered all three parts. He came in, figured out which one it was, waited a couple of days so that we knew it was functioning, then sent the other parts back. I really liked this particular person and I requested for him when I had another claim. He came out for a service call that I had because Sears had screwed it up.

Then, the microwave's glass window that you can see through was broken and the dishwasher had some pieces that were knocking out. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield, which took a couple of clicks, and it was easy to do. The contractor I got was really knowledgeable and down-to-earth. I had some people come out through American Home Shield that just wanted to collect their hundred dollars but didn't fix the problem, but this guy was great. There was even one part, a silverware rack, that didn't come in but he didn't need to hold everything else up and wait for that. I'm happy with the garage door company that they sent. Their tech was extremely nice, helpful and prompt. He gave us some hints and clues about what to look and he fixed the garage door when he was here. Also, there's one claim with the dishwasher which is finally being installed today between 2:00 and 5:00. The first time that AHS ordered the dishwasher they couldn't find the service company that they had chosen to come out and inspect it. So they had to find another service company which they finally got and they had to reorder the dishwasher which is supposed to be delivered today.

We had a claim on a dishwasher and disposal which American Home Shield took care of but not until after they had a repairman come out to look at the dishwasher three times when he changed a couple of pieces on it but it still wasn't functioning properly. I told them at that point, that I was gonna write them a letter to the warranty company, so they promptly replaced the dishwasher.
Another claim is for a stove in the house and we've been smelling natural gas in the kitchen, so we turned the stove off. We thought that it was the cooktop of the stove. AHS sent somebody out and they replaced the cooktop after having somebody come out to look at it and find out that the cooktop wouldn't function at all. So, they turned everything back on and we started getting the gas smell again. I had them check the stove and American Home Shield said that they'll send a repairman out but they won’t really comment on what they can do. They just sent a repair person out. He was a nice older guy. He came out, pulled the oven out, looked at it and checked for gas leaks a couple of times but he can't seem to find it. I can certainly smell it when I come in.
He ran his meter and he said that the leak could be coming from under the house. He ran the meter inside the cabinets and the meter went off inside the cabinets which told me that the gas has been pulling up inside these cabinets. He said that we might have a leak under these cabinets, but there are no pipes there. The only pipe is under the house. He went on saying that there might be a leak under the house. But why do I smell it when the valve was turned on and when the valve is turned off, we couldn’t smell it anymore? So, there's something wrong with the meter. The meter needs to be calibrated or they need a newer one. So, I went out and bought one myself and I'm gonna test it. It's not a professional meter but at least it's supposed to detect a gas leak.
It has just been a real hassle. To this day we still have the gas off and the stove is still sitting there. The repair guys still can't find the leak. We're afraid to use the oven at this point and we're contemplating on replacing it. Our concern is that if the natural gas builds up and we’re not home and we turn the lights switch on, we could level the house. AHS just needs to replace the stove. Also, I called them and they got me on hold forever. They didn't really care. My next step after this is to have my attorney send them a demand letter to replace the stove and if they don't, then I'll sue them in small claims court.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield was pretty fast. I got an appointment within a couple of days. I Yelped the contractor they gave me before that company came out and they had good Yelp reviews. And it showed when the tech got here. He was professional, was quick to figure out what was going on, and determined that the compressor wasn’t working.
But what was neat was instead of saying that the compressor needed to be replaced, he opened up the whole air conditioner to see why the compressor wasn’t working. There were some shorted wires and he installed a hard start kit and was able to get the same compressor to start working again. He took his time to see what the issue was and resolved it. For that certain period of time that I used the air conditioner afterwards, it was perfect. It was easier to go through American Home Shield than it was to go with First American. I have been a policyholder for American Home Shield for a number of years. Over the past few weeks, I had a problem and they attempted to solve it. The heating in my house was not working properly and various people came out seven times to work on it but no one could fix the problem. I usually call when I submit a claim because sometimes I can request who the contractor would be if I had good luck with them before. Some of the people that came out just threw up their hands and asked me to get somebody else when they couldn't do it. That was frustrating.
I also couldn't tell how many hours I spent waiting for people to show up. They'd tell me they were running late then, they'd give me a time frame between 12 o’clock in the afternoon and 6 o’clock at night,. But at 6 o’clock at night, they were still not there and I was waiting until they showed up at 8 o’clock. While I understand that they were busy, I didn't get a whole lot of feedback from the people that I was waiting for that they might be on their way or if they were tied up. It was just difficult to deal with. I wasted a lot of time over January and February waiting for people then they didn’t show up or they didn’t have the equipment or they didn’t have the piece needed.
And since the heater wasn't fixed, we couldn’t stay in the house sometimes because it was freezing. It affected me because it cost me money to keep my family warm. In the end, the people American Home Shield sent out weren't fully capable of doing the job. Eventually, I had to get an outside person to solve it. It got cold outside and no matter what I set the thermostat, my house stayed really cold because my heater wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield, and my interaction with their reps was nice. Everybody was great. They told me that a person from a heating and air company would call me and make an appointment. The AHS reps did that very promptly and everything was taken care of quickly. The contracting company that was sent out was wonderful and I love them. Tristan, the technician, went above and beyond, and he explained the whole system to me. I have a pretty unique furnace in my house and there's two of them. They are heat-pumps, but instead of having electric coils, when the heat gets past a certain temperature, there's actually gas as the auxiliary heat. His diagnosis was that the thermostats were just so old.
The mercury thermostats were about 10-degrees off in both directions, so they weren't able to kick the auxiliary heat on. And replacing the thermostats would get the auxiliary heat to work when it needed to work. The furnaces were fine, but the heat pumps didn't work well when it got below a certain temperature. The technician took a bunch of ice off of our unit because it rained, and then it froze, and then it rained, and it froze again. The temperature was fluctuating and it had frozen the fans, so he got that all checked up. And part of the concern was that it was making a terrible noise out there when the fan was kicking on, so we didn’t want to mess with that. We wanted a professional because I didn’t know how big of a problem it was, and Tristan resolved that issue. Then he told me what I needed to do that was really outside the scope of what he was going to do.
He said that if he replaced the thermostat, it was going to be with a really base model thermostat. He did as much as he could to repair it, which I don't think I would have even known to do nor would my husband have known to do, and then to really fix the problem in any kind of long-term since new thermostats are the answer. I would rather go with a smart thermostat and put that on there. So, I ended up buying new thermostats and I replaced them myself afterward and it fixed the problem. I was really happy with Tristan and with the contractor. He didn’t leave when everything was working quickly and he stayed a little bit more to get it working perfectly. If I were paying everything out of my own pocket, I would probably continue to use them. So I was very happy with the contractor. And so far, the contractors that American Home Shield works with have been very helpful.

I got a call from a tenant that a faucet was not putting out water. I called American Home Shield. Their reps were good but I had to tell them the issue with a sense of urgency. The only challenging part is always getting to a real person through the phone with AHS. They prefer for you to use their website which does not work for me. When I call, I want to push the button and get a representative immediately. The rep took my information, looked me up in the system and ran me out to a vendor, then I got a call from the plumber to schedule an appointment. The plumber came out within the next 48 hours.
He was very knowledgeable and he quickly diagnosed the problems and told me what was going on. He saved me some money because I was entitled to a new faucet as it just so happened that the brand that I chose had a lifetime warranty. He was able to go in the website, research it, and told me that he could call the company that made the faucet and they would send me a new one and he would come back to install it at no additional cost. So, I got a new faucet and the plumber came back to install the new faucet.
I would absolutely recommend AHS for another person who is looking to get a new warranty. Their pricing is a little bit higher than some of the competitors but I went with them primarily because of the brand name recognition. It would be better if they could still bring down the amount of time that it takes to get to a live voice because I had to push different buttons just to get to a live person.

And then, it took a week and a half for the part to get here and it was probably fixed within two weeks, max. The guy who came and fixed the dishwasher was really good. Since the repair, I have no problems with the dishwasher at all. I would recommend AHS. Having a warranty gives you peace of mind.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield was fine. The issue was for a plumbing leak in my upstairs bathroom and it got taken care of right away. I submitted the claim over the phone and I got through to someone right away. The claim representatives were very polite. American Home Shield tried to set something up, but the contractor didn’t contact me within 24 hours. So, I had to call the contractor and the first person that I talked to was very nasty and totally uncooperative about scheduling an appointment around my time within reason, and I was really worried about that. But when I called back, I spoke with a different person who was much more cooperative about scheduling. So, it went from something that was totally impossible to, “Oh, yeah. We can do that,” and the schedule got changed.
The guy who came to do the repair was very professional and he was absolutely fantastic, which made a big difference with my having to take time off from work. He came in and looked at the problem, and he said that he could fix it and that he had the part in his car. He also said that he’d be out of my house in 10 minutes and he was, which was great. So, I went back to work. That was the first time that I used American Home Shield at all and I’ve been pleased with their service.

My electric range oven stopped working on Saturday 3/17. I placed a service call online and waited for a call from the repair shop. No one called. On Monday 3/19 I called the assigned shop and they told me that they were booked, and that no one will be able to come until the next Monday 3/26. They suggested I called AHS to find another repair shop that could come sooner. On 3/19 I called AHS and explained my urgent situation, that the repair shop told me that they would not be able to come to my house at least until Monday 3/26, and that because my electric range stopped working completely, I only had a microwave in the house to prepare my family meals, that please send somebody else.
After she called several repair shops, she informed me that she couldn’t find anyone to come before Friday 3/23. Again I expresses my dissatisfaction on having to wait so long for an emergency call. I asked if they could authorized me to find a repair shop on my own, but they refused. What can You expect from a home warranty company that is not able to have their contracted repair shops make an emergency call, or agree to reimburse the owner if he contact a repair company on his own? I had the bad experience, and now you know so you don’t have to. Find another company.
Hello, Juan. I do understand your frustrations with having to wait for a service appointment on an appliance that you rely on daily. Unfortunately, being without your oven/range is not considered as an emergency under our guidelines. I do see that we located a company to service you sooner. My 78 year old mother's boiler went out a Sunday late afternoon in March. She has an American Home Shield policy that covers her boiler. She called and only got a recording with no way to even reach a real person. She reported that her furnace went out when technically it is a boiler. She spent the night very cold with temperature getting down to 50 degrees.
American Home Shield called her back Monday morning and scheduled a person for Tuesday expecting my mother to spend another day and night in the cold. They said they called 3 repair places and no one could come until Tuesday. They also said that because she first reported it as a furnace and not a boiler that the time period to find her a repairperson started over again or an additional 48 hours. I think they should have put this as an emergency circumstance and not settled until they found a person for the same day. I also think if they could not find a person for the day, then they should pay the contractor that my mom found. They said they do this if they can't find someone in the allotted time of 48 hours.
This isn't a washer or dryer or dishwasher that a person can go without for a day or two, this is the heat for an elderly woman's house with outside temperatures of 50 degrees. I think this is unacceptable. I told my mom to call repair people until she found one that can come ASAP. The first place she called, she now has an appointment for today. If it was that easy for her to find someone, why is AHS having such a hard time? They don't seem to care about their customers. I called to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for 15 minutes only to be told there are no supervisors available. If I ran my business this way, I would be out of business.
Hello, Pamela. I apologize that happened to your mother. I completely understand your point of view but sometimes we are working on the procedures that are listed in the policy. We will have a Social Media Specialist reach out to you directly to discuss the circumstances and try to provide assistance.

American Home Shield uses Greenway Home Services and this company suck. They came out and on the 2nd trip stated my wall would need to be cut for the new unit to be installed. They indicated this was not covered. The first estimate I received was $300 and later it jumped to over $1,000. I did not pay this, so Greenways left the unit on my front porch. American Home Shield did nothing to assist and they did not return my $100 service fee. My unit leaked. Since I had paid I wanted the Freon put in my current unit. They did not do that either. I contacted the BBB, they were of no assistance.
I believe as long as they pay their fee, the BBB will continue to recommend them. They attempted to collect the balance on document, however, I told them where they could go. They started sending me material again last year. I continue to return to sender. I request they stop sending mail to me, however, so I continue to return it. I am going to contact the police and see if there is something I can do to make them stop. It just creates more documents to be shredded

I scheduled a repair with AHS for our refrigerator because it was leaking water all over. The contractor came out today, took a look at it and assessed it. He knew what was wrong, had the parts on his truck to fix it and got it fixed. We’re happy with the repair. As long as it doesn’t leak anymore water, we’re good. This is the second time we’ve had to call AHS for a claim and we’ve been very satisfied with the service.

OMG!!! I cannot believe they have 4 stars. Maybe you have to live in a certain area to get service. For issues like plumbing and A/C you would think they could have a vendor ready to go the very next business day, but it was more like 2 to 3 business days only to come out and say the services are not covered. After getting a independent contractor out to give me a totally different diagnosis, I sent AHS the report and want to appeal the decision. I never got a callback or a reply from their resolution team. So finally after the 3rd service request they refused to cover. I canceled their services. It's crazy to had to pay for the monthly payments, services fee and ultimately, Paid for the repair out of my own Pocket anyway. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

I've seen several television commercials regarding home warranties and we talked with several friends who had either American Home Shield or a similar program. We thought it was a very good thing to have so we went ahead and got the protection so that in case something happens with the major appliances, we would have protection against some catastrophic bill or being without services for extended periods of time. We called American Home Shield and told them that we were having some plumbing issues. They said that they would get into contact with some of the companies that they used to fix those kinds of problems and they did. They sent out some repairmen to perform the services for us.
Both contractors sent were nice. But, one contractor still has not corrected the problem. They ordered some parts and when the parts came in, it wasn't everything that they needed. It was about two weeks before the initial set of parts came in. They came out last week to complete the job and as they opened the container with the parts, everything that they needed was not there so they had to order some more parts. The faucet still hasn't been repaired. But the other situation seemed to be taken care of professionally and I’m satisfied with it.
One of the repairs was a situation with our Jacuzzi tub. The panel across the entire bottom of the tub had to be taken out because that was the way to get to the working parts of the motor. But it wasn't caulked back very well so it was loose again. We had somebody out to do the caulking. Aside from that, the repair went fairly well. The tub seems to be working properly. Our interaction with the repair service guys went fairly well. They were competent and professional.
AHS is a great idea. It's wonderful to have coverage for situations that arise around the home. People will pay one service charging of $125 as opposed to hundreds and hundreds of dollars. And as long as American Home Shield will deal with reputable service repair companies everything should be fine. Hopefully, everything will go well with our faucets. These people are reputable and professional. There are companies offering a similar service so competition always make things a lot better.

We had a heating issue. It was something with the furnace valve and the heat would not come on or it would come on but it would not stay on. It went on for a couple of days. I went online first and then I called AHS because there was bad weather around the country at that time, not necessarily where we were but in other places and we have a newborn infant at home. I wanted to get someone on the line to try to expedite the process and the AHS rep was very helpful. She got someone here the same day.
The contractor was very professional and he took care of everything. He ended up having come out three different times because we had the issue happened again three times, but on the third time they just replaced the part instead of trying to patch it and we have not had the issue since then. It's the winter time so, not having working heat would definitely be a problem but we've only had that problem for 24 hours because they were able to handle the issue. I've been very pleased with AHS. My parents also have them and they’ve always been pleased.

The company that came to service me has a very fine recommendation on record. The gentleman they sent was enthusiastic about making it right. The owner of the company also was extremely courteous and actually gave me his number and told me that if the alarm goes off in the middle of the night again, to call him and they will come. They came back several times until they fixed the problem. AHS has always been able to get me somebody to help. I took the advice of the real estate agent and did American Home Shield. American Home Shield's service was fine and they were pretty prompt. The most recent experience we had was a claim for a leak under our kitchen sink but the problems weren’t necessarily found by the plumber. Water was getting in and ruining our floor, and I don’t know why the leak wasn’t leaking anymore once he got there. We ran the sink and the water was not draining all over the place like it initially did when we needed them. But, they told me that if the problem that we saw persisted, we had 60 days to call them back and they can come out without charging us again. There was one other claim that I had submitted online, and it was for the air conditioner at the time. No one ever got back to us. Other than us being perturbed by it, it was unprofessional. We never received any kind of follow-up, whether it was email or a phone call from the company that was supposed to handle our claim.

At this point, it has been over a year and the fan has been running continuously because I did not pay attention to it. I then called American Home Shield and they sent another team out. The second company indicated to me that the other company that came out two years ago when I had a problem with my air conditioning did not wire it up correctly.
Once I found out what was the problem, I called American Home Shield back and explained to them what I had learned and they took care of the problem. I also did not have to pay $125 a second time because it was not my fault that the first company made a mistake. I had a pleasant experience with the second company. The contracting company that AHS sent out was very professional and completely on time. They came in and got the situation resolved very quickly. They took about two and a half hours to figure out what was going on and to correct it. According to them, there was some wiring problem that caused the wall panel to go out. Then they walked me through and explained what was taking place and what they had done to rectify it. It was a very good experience, and I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I’ve always submitted my claims with American Home Shield online, and then they send me an email back saying the contractor will be in touch with me, and they sure do. They arrange to come out to the house and do whatever it is that needs to be done, and they leave. I called a service call in for my swimming pool equipment and the person from Expert Pools came out. He did whatever he did and then the technician said it was all he can do at that time and I needed to call for another service call to finish the work. That’s where the problem started and I said it should be just one call because he hasn’t finished the work. I had to do another service call for him to finish the work, which he did, so I paid twice for the same thing. I felt like they wanted to get double for the same thing, and that was what they got.
I reached out to both the contractor and to American Home Shield. I told them it was the same situation and the same equipment, and it hadn’t been fixed. Both American Home Shield and the contractor said the same thing that plumbing was the problem. But it was the swimming pool plumbing. Nobody would listen and it was like dealing with robots. They were programmed to say certain things and I didn’t feel like I was talking to a human being where they can reason and listen and use their brains.
The issue was inconvenient and a little bit stressing, but they finished the repair on the second trip and it got taken care of. On earlier service calls, they were okay and it was an automatic thing. You go online, you register whatever it is you need work, and they send a technician out from a company. They fix it and they go their own way. Everybody gets paid and everybody is happy. On this particular case, it was sort of a misunderstanding and they wouldn’t budge nor listen and they wouldn’t reason. They just stuck to their belief that I got to have another service call.

The first one was two guys that didn't have a clue what they were doing and had no clue what was wrong. They said that they would get back to me but I didn't hear from them. The second company had somebody come out who said right away what the issue was and he was going to order the part but I never heard from him again. When I tried to call, there was no answer and they didn't call me back. If they can't find the part, if they don't know what to do, that's one thing. But at least answer my calls or call me back. The third company was great. Their tech went right to work. He couldn't get the part because the machine was obsolete, so he worked with American Home Shield to get us a brand new unit.
AHS is great when I talk to them but getting to talk to somebody there is almost impossible. I got a good initial response from American Home Shield concerning a claim I filed for our water heater. I did the claim over the phone and had a great experience with the rep. AHS was quick about getting in contact with someone that could give us an estimated time and how long it would take to get someone out. I also had some follow-up questions that were all answered satisfactorily. However, I was not entirely satisfied with the actual installation.
First, I did not get a replacement equivalent to what was there, as it was supposed to be in the contract. It’s a less powerful water heater and we do not get as much hot water out of it. Also, they put in something that was more appropriate for an apartment or a limited space installation. And because it was an extra compact size, they charged me an additional 400 something dollars for installation. It was not necessary that they made all those modifications. It would have taken a standard sized replacement, same as what we had. Before the installation, I made the point to them that there should be no need for all of these charges. And the contracting company said, “We do this several times a week. We always make these changes.”
And then, they put it on the floor, which is also not okay because it’s right next to a sump pump. So, that increases the chances of a failure in the future because it’s putting it in the way of potential water. So, I’m not happy about all that. I have tried bringing it up with AHS and I’m still following up on that. Also, what made me sad is that I have been with this company a long time, had good relationships with them, and had been comfortable with them in the past. I hope that this experience is not indicative of a change in their service orientation because if it is, I would not want to continue with them in the future.
I understand your concerns with the noncovered cost of $400 you paid to have your water heater replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and address the concerns.

It took three days for someone to get in contact with me and they had to come out from somewhere else because there was no local thing going on and the contractor came from about 60 miles away. When the guy came here, he explained to me that if I had to move it, I should not jerk it as hard as I did because of the way the stuff was mounted on the bottom. In other words, I should move it gently and there was really nothing wrong with the refrigerator.
There was another call that I put in with AHS that concerned another issue that I had here. First, I had a Titan heater and the heater broke so the local company came here and fixed it. However, they created another problem. They over-tightened what they were putting in, so the tank reservoir’s filter started leaking. I didn’t know where the leak was coming from, so I called them again personally. They came out here and they treated it with some O-ring they put that in, but it was still leaking so I put a call into American Home Shield to report it leaking.
They said that it should be a follow-up call by that company, but that company never responded and never came. Nobody has contacted me and it was the same time that call for a refrigerator was put in. But that has really nothing to do with American Home Shield. I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years but I didn’t renew for a certain time then I went back so I've been with them for about ten years. I normally file a claim over the phone and they send somebody out within 24 hours but it’s the same company. AHS doesn’t have as many technicians in the area. The person I talked to was nice, but she put me on hold for a long time, 35-40 minutes, to find someone. It was cold that time and everybody was busy. If they have ten companies, then maybe somebody would not be busy.
I had two companies come out. The first one came out twice while the second company, once. The guys ordered parts. And after, the last guy said he didn’t need the parts. I don’t think their technician who was sent out had the skill-set to do what I needed to do then. And it seemed like they didn’t have the patience. There was a water hose on the water heater and the guys did everything but they told my husband that they don’t do water hose and if we wanted it cut, I got to go to Home Depot and they left. When I called, the technician said he would not come out. He was concerned that point whether he was blamed whatever was on.
Then the person on the second time was nice. He asked why there was water there. He kept working it like I was a patient. He kept on going to find out what was wrong. He did and the water had to come out of the hole. He reattached it and did a great job. I’m happy with American Home Shield and I’ve used the other people who have come up before. I would recommend them but they need to get some more organizations that they subcontract work to. It’s always Tech Air Conditioning that they send and the owner will call and he’s nice. But competition is stiff. I think that in the Washington DC metropolitan area, they need to get more than one organization or contractor.

I went to work one day, everything was fine when I left, and my son was at home. He woke up and when he went into the bathroom, the toilet wouldn’t flush. He looked in his tub. His tub was full of dirty water. He also went into my bathroom and it was the same thing. Apparently, the system had everything backed up into the house. My first thought was that it was plumbing and it should be covered under American Home Shield, so I called them and I was connected right away. I told the rep exactly what was happening and she told me exactly what was covered and what wasn’t. She was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Then she said, “I will get somebody out there as soon as possible.” And sure enough, within two hours somebody was at the house.
The guy was great. My son said he was very knowledgeable, told him exactly what was happening, and went from there. He checked the bathrooms to look at the toilets and the tub, and then he went outside, did his thing. He snaked the line and it unclogged everything. My toilet, tubs and everything is fine now. However, he found that the pipe in our front yard was penetrated by tree roots. He determined it wasn’t covered so he gave a quote for digging up my front yard to repair the pipe for $2,800. He said it will happen again and as those roots continue to grow, it could back up again. So, he said, “You'd probably want to get it fixed.”
My son then had to sign something saying that he was here, saying that the repair itself wasn’t covered. We paid the 75 bucks, and everything was great. It was great interaction. At that point, I was looking for somebody to go ahead and do the repair because the quote was a little bit more than what I need to spend right now. I called around to see if there were cheaper options. It’s not detrimental to get it fixed right away because it’s a minor thing. My yard’s not flooded with sewer or anything, so we're okay for a little bit.
We've done business with AHS many years ago. I was married and we had them in the house that we bought in California and we've had such a great interaction with them back then. I just bought this house in Texas in July and when I was asked about my preferred home warranty, the first thing I said was American Home Shield. I wouldn’t go with anything else. The service I have gotten from American Home Shield on the rentals have been very good and I would recommend them. Also, I need to call them because I want to take this on my own house too.

We had three claims with American Home Shield this year since we moved in and every time, they've always sent out very good people. Our most recent one was for our water heater which wasn't heating anymore. All I had to was call American Home Shield and pay $75, and they took care of everything else from that point on. They figured out that the heater needed replacement so they replaced the entire unit for us. The contractors had also been quick to come out and they were very reputable and courteous. In fact, we even had a gas leak in the garage and the contractor came out and checked it for us. But it was fine and it wasn't even due to the gas heater. I am very happy with American Home Shield. I have recommended them to several people and I'll also renew my contract when it stops.

When I filed the claim online to American Home Shield for my microwave and refrigerator, navigating their website was easy. Since then, the appliances have been wonderful and the customer service was great.

I had a 22-year old washing machine that went in on the fret. The guy that American Home Shield sent out said it needed some parts but the machine was so old and he probably wouldn't find the parts. And so I told him to see what he could do. He called me back and said, "I’m not going to be able to find the part. I’ll turn it in to American Home Shield and they’ll replace it." But I didn’t hear from American Home Shield. I called them and they started on about the dryer. I told them it wasn't the dryer but the washing machine. And then they said the appliance guy was looking at the dryer, but he wasn’t.
So, there was some miscommunication between the appliance repairman and the people at American Home Shield, and it took a long time to get it straightened out. It was a little irritating not having a washing machine for so long. But once they got it to their heads that it was the washing machine, there was finally the authorization to go ahead and purchase a comparable replacement. And once I did it, it was fine. They came up with an equitable offer and the check they sent me was fine.

We had a microwave problem about a year and a half ago. I almost called the police because the guy that was sent was yelling back at me and I was yelling at him. I have nothing against foreign people but I couldn’t understand what he was saying to me a lot of time. I called AHS so they don’t send that company again to me. It was a really bad experience. They sent somebody different the next time and I was really pleased with him. We also went for five weeks of them coming out a couple of times ordering parts. And then, the guy ordered the wrong part. It was a $200 microwave and we could have bought a microwave for what I paid AHS for the last four years. I was going to cancel AHS because I was really disappointed in them a couple times.
I was grateful because now, my washer is acting up. In the final spin cycle, it is bouncing around so much a lot of the times that it bounces stuff off of the top of it. Another main issue which occurs randomly is that the soap dish, where the soap is poured in, at the end of washing, it will be filled with clear water in it so, we would empty it out, put the soap in, then we do laundry. That’s not normal. The third issue was sometimes, the water at the clothes is a bit even so, the clothes spin all the way. We called AHS to submit a claim and it went a lot smoother than I had in the past. It was really quick and I was really surprised that I got a call back the next day. Where before, it had taken a couple of days in finding out who would be coming out.
Somebody came out and he was very informative. He said that we were putting too much soap on our clothes because it was the high efficiency. He tested it and it didn’t do it for him. I said to him that I have faith in him but he didn’t do anything, and probably, it is going to happen again. He replied that I simply call back if it happens again. Two days after he left, it happened again. It is not fixed yet so, I will be calling back.

When I submitted a claim for my pool equipment, the company that American Home Shield sent me was the worst. They didn't know what they were doing. I asked AHS not to send them and to send other guys but they still did. When the guy came, he told me to get so many things, how much it was going to cost me, and that the warranty would not cover it. He also told me to either pay them or the unit will not get fixed. I didn't understand because AHS covered the problem months ago and I ended up paying both the company and AHS.
Every time the problem comes back, AHS makes me pay another service fee even though it's the same problem. When I go online to ask for the service, they're not going to take my request until I pay them even if they fixed the issue two days ago. Also, whenever I call them, I stay on hold forever. I was with Old Republic before and I was happy with them even if they were charging me more. Then I shopped around and found AHS and thought I was going to save some money but I ended paying more and I'm not happy.

American Home Shield's website is fine and the claims process has met my expectations. I submitted an online claim for the plumbing issues that I had been having. The contractor came out to do some work but there were still some issues after they left, so when I called back in, the same ticket was opened. The problem was something unrelated to that, but we didn’t know what they were here to do. We just knew we were having problems. The plumber said he knew what the problem was and he could fix it but he couldn't at that time because it was not on the ticket. It seemed a little bit unproductive for everyone. And I was paying for them to come, and it took five days for them to come.
Also, they came out but they were not able to perform the work because it wasn't specifically on the ticket. I had to call back and go through the whole process all over again, which was a bit inefficient for everyone. I shared with AHS that it didn’t make sense that they were going to allow the plumber to leave the house. And I even explained to AHS that if that was a function of paying another payment or service fee, then I would pay AHS the service fee right at that time, just so they wouldn't let the plumber leave because I didn’t want to wait another five to seven days for him to come back. But AHS was unwilling to do that. They fixed the problem, though, and the work quality was fine. American Home Shield is okay and I'd probably recommend it based on what their fees are.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for our water heater. We actually had to go through claims for this issue two different times, so we ended up paying $150 because the water heater wasn’t heating well and it was very old. We filed those claims online because I waited and waited but it was impossible to get a hold of them over the phone. I would like to be able to get someone to answer the phone. It would be nice to be able to ask questions from somebody instead of trying to type everything online.
The first time, American Home Shield had an electrician come out. The electrician that came out said that the water heater was old and that we needed a new one. He was very nice but he was exceedingly late. He had said that he’d be there between four and six, but it was actually a quarter to eight before he came out. There was no prewarning from him and when he came he said, "I got stuck at another job. Sorry." Then, the second time, American Home Shield had the plumbing guy come out. Instead of saying that we needed a new water heater, the plumbing guy stuck something in the water heater and now it’s working okay. However, due to what we’ve experienced with American Home Shield, my realtor is not recommending them now. American Home Shield reps on the phone were sometimes nice, sometimes they were reasonable. Normally, their contractor was out within two days or three. Some contractors were very good but some were a disaster just like the one for a pool. We waited for them for a week and they never called us back. We had to call again and AHS had to change with another company. That process was a pain because the insurance didn't want to send anybody else because they already started fixing the problem, and they didn't want other people to come. That company was horrible. The repair on the pool didn't even last a year. We called a few months ago and they had to change the same pump that they had changed that time because, clearly, they didn't know what they were doing. They put a very cheap brand.
The second contractor that came said, they don't even use those brand anymore because they were horrible. So, the guy put a different one and told us the brand and that they can give us a warranty on that. The other one was a piece of crap. Sometimes, having a home warranty is good but some other times, it's better just to take care of the problem out of pocket and not paying them the monthly fees. My last call was about my air conditioning and heater, and they don't want to replace it. They just want to give us very little for the repair. We already asked people around and the amount is not even half of what it costs and they don't want to give us anymore for that. So sometimes, we'd rather do it ourselves and not pay the insurance.

My experience sucked. I had a clogged toilet so I had no bathroom and after submitting the claim to American Home Shield online, I called on Saturday morning to get it expedited. They said that they would put an urgent order on it but it went to Sundance North West and six hours and four voicemails later, Sundance had still not returned any of my calls. The reps from American Home Shield were super fine but they said that they have 24 hours and that is their version of expediting. I was upset about that. Still, they were really nice and while they put me on hold, they called Sundance and left a message, giving permission for my claim to be expedited.
I had called it in at eight o’clock in the morning and I called back at four because I still hadn't heard from anyone. AHS called and left another message by five o’clock. American Home Shield also said that if they put me in their generic pool to call people then it might be the next week before someone gets out. That was not an option so I went ahead and cancelled the claim and called Roto-Rooter. I ended up having to spend 200 dollars out of my own pocket and American Home Shield never offered to refund my money.
Sundance did not call me until Friday, which was six days later. Their rep said that it was not their fault and that they had called and left a message. But they did not and she told me that I lied. Also, I didn’t understand why AHS wouldn’t reach out to say that they can get someone else out here. That wasn’t really an option that they made available to me. But that was the only disappointing thing on my end. AHS tried their best to give me the services and I’ve never had any issues before. This time, it was not AHS either. Back in January though when I had another claim, I was on the phone and it was taking about an hour trying to get through to AHS. In October, the same way. Also, back in October, I had a problem with my washer and AHS didn’t have a local vendor in my area and they ended up getting Sears which took a long time with getting somebody out here. One guy then told me that if I didn’t pay him $129 to have him clean it, he was going to turn it in and I wouldn’t have a warranty on my heater anymore. For AHS not to cover my heater is not for him to say but I’ve kept it clean all along. So I paid him $129 and he supposedly cleaned it. But that’s the only problem I’ve had other than having to wait on the phone too long to talk to a rep and turn in a claim. It took me about 45 minutes on the phone and then two to three days for someone to come out.
And then one guy on the water heater came because it was leaking. He said we needed a new water heater. He said they would go get it tomorrow but at that time they had to put straps on it, build the box for it to stand on and get it up to code and it was $1,200. I told them no and to just leave it under that part. I called the people from AHS and they said I didn't need a new water heater.
I called another plumber, this one from Little Tommy's, and he came over. The pressure top was coming out of the water heater and had to be extended to the hole and then the straps were put on. He did everything and I got all that done for $300. I called American Home Shield right away and told them about that, and that went rot. AHS would have given me a new one if I paid the first contractor $1,200. That’s just not right at all. Nevertheless, I love all the people at American Home Shield and everything that they all do. They wanted me to diagnose the problem again and describe them in my own words what was going on. And they seem to understand what I was talking about and told me what was going to happen next.
The contractor who came out quickly did a great job. He diagnosed what the problem was and told me immediately what was going to happen all within 20 minutes. The problem he said was the exact issue and he described what I needed to do and the rest was handled. He told me that American Home Shield would be able to cover something like this, and he was right. All we have to wait for was the sink that he ordered to be replaced. So, it went great.
If a friend would ask me about American Home Shield, I would give positive reviews. I already passed along the word, for how things worked out, to a couple of my friends who are also new homeowners and I’ve been happy doing that. I told them that American Home Shield was quick to respond and didn’t have to call to describe everything. The online portal was really easy to manage and submit my complaint. He came out and he looked at the light and he said that it needed to be replaced. He said that he would call back American Home Shield to see if they were going to take care of it and they said they did not do anything outside. So I talked to one of their representatives and I told them that in order for him to find out if there was something wrong with the lights, it had to be inside in the garage so that he could get the electrician. But she forwarded to the page which said they don’t do outside. The electrician came back today and he is going to finish up and put up my light. I’m waiting for him to do that, but I have to carry the cost which I was not excited about. I bought the light to go outside and I have to pay him. So, I'm paying two times.
I was going to send you American Home Shield a nice full of note since my husband and I had American Home Shield for a while and we don’t call that often too. It just happened that at that particular time, we had to call for a plumber and I was just checking because my water bill was still high. The plumber came and he checked everything and he said I didn’t have a leak. I was very thankful for that because I’d ask him if I have one on the outside. They said I would have to pay to have my own faculty build up. But I was grateful that it wasn’t that. The water company said that it was a possibility that I left all of the water faucet dripping since we didn't want to have any frozen pipes, and that tripled my water bill.
I was very satisfied with the plumber and also with the electrician. I’m hoping that if I have to use American Home Shield again, I won’t have that same experience with the light, and I would go through my policy before I call. I encourage other people to pull out their contract and read it because that’s where I got caught. But other than that, I was satisfied with American Home Shield as they provided good service and I’ve had a very good experience with them.

When it comes to little repairs, American Home Shield will take care of it but when we have major issues, they don’t seem to want to do that. They would not do anything about an air-conditioning that was falling apart and I ended up having to replace it.
It got to a point where the repairmen came and that it had to be replaced but the company insisted no and it had to be continued to be repaired, which was becoming extremely costly to me on monthly basis, as long as I was paying the cost every other month to keep it running. They considered it to be running and they didn’t care and they paid whatever they had to pay for that particular repair at the time.
I still keep them in the hopes that if I have an issue, they may try to repair it in the future although I can’t count on that. The last time, we were on the phone on hold for an hour and 45 minutes. Contacting American Home Shield is brutally painful. They sent a plumber out three times to fix our sink, and the last time, he said “I can’t do this, we need to send a company out that has a camera”, so then another company called, who doesn’t have the camera.
I go on the website and I click “Our sink doesn’t work”, but there’s no place on that website to say, “Plumber number 1 says that the person who needs to come out needs to come with a camera”. And also, it’s like if I go to a cardiologist, I would want the cardiologist to talk to my primary care doctor. I don’t understand the lingo of plumbers and I want that plumber to explain what they need. The reason we’re asking for a plumber is that I need their expertise.
The communication between the companies they send out isn’t there, so then, whatever the problem is from company number one, doesn’t get passed on to company number two. There’s an extreme waste of my time because I take a day off of work to sit here for four hours for someone to show up. It is a very big deal to have someone come to my house to fix something. And for them to send somebody that doesn’t know what befell the person before was talking about, it’s ridiculous. On the other hand, from a financial standpoint, AHS is reasonable and have nice people. However, the communication between the companies they send out needs to improve.

Navigating their website was very easy too, and the next day, the technician got out here. He was very good. While he was mostly with my husband, he was very friendly and informative about telling us what he was doing and what he was finding. Since the repair, our toilet is doing fine. Overall, having a warranty with American Home Shield gives you peace of mind. While we don't use it very often, it's nice to know it's there when you need it.

Our house was build in 2007 and having a warranty is very important. We have had AHS on my other house, so we continued with it. The most recent claim we had with them was for our garage door. One of its ropes broke. The rep that I talked to was very good. I like to call because most of the time I don't know what's covered and what's not. They then sent a contractor and he was good. However, I was told that AHS doesn't cover my case, so my son paid the contractor by check. I then paid the deductible by credit card and their customer service took that. AHS drives me crazy about which things are covered and which things are not. But I'm working and I don't have time to look for a contractor so it's easier for me to have it this way.
Hi, Safa. I definitely understand the convenience of having AHS. Thank you for your patronage.

The online claims submission process of American Home Shield works fantastic and is really user-friendly. I go to the website, pull up my account, and type in what I have a problem with or what I need done. I had a problem with our stove and a gentleman came out, replaced the thermostat in it and one other part. He was super friendly, very informative, and was right there with an answer for me for any questions I asked. He had to order one of the parts and the part was actually delivered to my house. I called him immediately when the part was right there then he showed up that day and put it in. He was a super guy. He fixed the problem for me as soon as he could and was happy to be of service. I'm very satisfied.

I had a claim recently with American Home Shield regarding the water and furnace. Their claims representative was really good and helpful, and the contractor was out the next day. However, my wife was very uncomfortable with him and it seems that they wanted for us to spend a lot of money. It was not a good experience. We did a cashout and I was able to get somebody else to fix the problem. But besides that bad experience, everything else has been good.

I had a dishwasher issue and when American Home Shield's technician came out, he found out that there was a leak. So, there was a claim put in for that. Because there was somebody already coming out for the leak, I put in a secondary claim over the phone for some plumbing issues around the house. However, it took me two hours to get on the phone with somebody and that has been a consistent issue with American Home Shield. Nevertheless, when their contractor arrived he was very good and I liked him.

We purchased this house last year and it has AHS warranty. I always submit my claims online and within a day, I get a response. To escalate a problem, I have to pay a $75 charge for the call, which I could pay online. I also did some research on one of these companies and AHS was the number one. I checked two other ones and I didn’t like what I saw in them. AHS has a better policy, so much so that I renewed it for another year because it expired in March. For the $60 that I'm paying a month, I have an insurance policy and it's a lot easier for me at least to have something like that in my back pocket. The policy I have is the top of the line which covers any county codes.
About a month ago, I had a problem with my heat pump. It was 10 years old already so they had no problem replacing it. And that's a $3,000 item right there. It had to be elevated six inches off the ground. The guy that gave them an estimate on the apartment wanted to charge me an extra $900 because he had to pull permits and put Freon in. I called AHS and the lady, Jackie, said that that was not right because those heat pumps already have the Freon in it so they didn’t have to put it in. That was money in my pocket I saved. And since I had the elite policy, I was covered.
We also have a power flush toilet and it pushes everything down quicker. I had a problem where it wasn’t working. The guy came out and made a small adjustment and it's been fine ever since. The techs they've sent are qualified. With other companies, you have to fight this and that but with AHS you don’t have to. You have them come out, you tell them what the problem is and they fix it or replace it. I've told a friend who asked me about AHS that getting it is the best thing to do.

The element on my oven broke and it caught on fire. I made a claim to AHS online because their hold times are not short. Their site is nice. When the repair was made, someone else was there. But I talked on the phone a few times with the office manager of the company contracted out and she was great. We had a snow delay but aside from that, everything seemed to have worked all right. The technicians were efficient and got the job done. They were in and out. The oven has been perfect since then. AHS has been a great service for when we needed it and I'd recommend it. Aside from the hold times when I actually called in, my overall experience has been pretty good.
Hi, Michael. That sounds like it could have been so much worse. I am glad to know that you found the website easy to manage. Thank goodness we were able to do the repairs.

It was New Year’s Eve and I had a water leak in my basement. Water was coming through the wall, up under the carpet. So I had to turn off my whole house water. I was home and I got it pretty quickly so the damage was minimal. I called American Home Shield right away or tried to and it said that my wait was over an hour and then I felt that maybe it’s New Year’s Eve and maybe there’s nobody there. So I went online and put it online because I felt that I can wait until the morning and see what they’d say. That night, I quickly got a text that said, “This is your plumbing guy. This is who will do the work.”
In the morning, I waited for the plumber. I texted the plumber. I called the plumber and they said they weren’t available, like nobody was there. So I said, “Well, it’s New Year's Day” but I went online and I looked for an emergency number for that plumber. There was nothing. I tried to call American Home Shield again and the wait was over an hour so I didn’t wait anymore. I ended up looking for emergency plumbers who would be reasonable in my area who would come out and I found Mr. Rooter who doesn’t charge a holiday or extra fee for weekends and they were able to come out the next day.
In the meantime, I had gotten a text from the plumber and it said that they couldn’t even come out until Wednesday and this was Sunday. So the plumber ended up coming and fixing it. Then I tried to call AHS on Monday to tell them that I had it fixed. They told me that it wouldn’t be covered because I used an outside source. I told them that it wasn’t fair because I couldn’t get a hold of anybody to find another plumber from them. Somebody had told me to email my information to a place and fax it. I did that and I also sent a letter to the headquarters with my information. I hadn’t heard anything so I ended up calling and a couple of weeks later, I got a hold of somebody and the guy said, “Oh yeah, this was processed. I’m going to put you through our claims office and they’ll tell you when you should be getting a check.” When I got to them, they were like “No. He was wrong. He gave you the wrong information.”
Somehow, I got to Sue. She said, “Let me gather the information.” She was very helpful and she wanted me to try to get the plumber so she could talk to the plumber but he wouldn’t call me back. I called three times over there to talk to him. Mr. Rooter is a big company where they just farm people out. She kept saying she was giving him messages but he never called. So she went on the receipt which clearly said “This was not due to a freeze. This was due to a bad coupling that had broken apart.” Sue was like, “I’m going to prove it for you” so it was very nice. But she said “Send your letter with your name and the receipt to this address,” the people who would give me the check.
Then within a week, I had gotten a letter from them and it said, “We need a legible receipt. We can’t read this and it doesn’t show that you paid this amount.” It clearly said on the receipt that I had paid with my credit card. It was hand written but I could read it and Sue could read it. So I wrote a letter and wrote word for word what it said on that receipt. I told them they could even call Mr. Rooter if they wanted because that’s the only kind of receipt I can get. I just got the check the other day and it was minus my $75 deductible but it was a long process. Before this process, I had a few things that I had AHS fixed in my home and they did a great job. This could have been handled a little bit better. They said that they’re working on getting a hold of their call process. They have a live chat now which was helpful.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a leaking faucet in one of our outdoor water bibbs. I did an online submission and then they set up everything. It went smooth as far as signing up on there. Then the plumber contacted me and set up the time that was convenient. It took him about 30 minutes to fix it and then the faucet's been working great since. I've been really happy with the services that I've gotten so far and the individuals that came out to my house. I had a locksmith come out and did a re-keying. That company was great and it was actually the owner that came out to do it. I recommended AHS to friends that needed those services and to people buying a new house especially if they're busy like me. I might know how to do a lot of those repairs, but I just don't have the time to.

I contacted American Home Shield about an issue with, first the microwave and then the dishwasher. They were malfunctioning so I put in a request. That was $100 per request and that was fine but they were able to group those issues into one single request which was pretty nice. I'm a big fan. But other than that, I have nothing good to say.
The downside was the request took three months to complete which was very unsettling because I have tenants in this house and they highly require at least the dishwasher is working. So the contractor that AHS hired to do the work was pretty poor and anytime I tried calling and getting a hold of American Home Shield, I’d be put in an hour plus wait. And that has happened about nine out of ten times. It's quite defeating when you're trying to get stuff done and you're listening to a hold music for an hour at the minimum. The longest I waited was an hour and 45. I talked to AHS about the length of time that it was taking for the contractor they hired to make the repairs and they said they’ll look into it, but I never heard anything back. I tried getting ahold of the contract company who’s making the repairs and they said they’ll look into it and get back to me. That never happened either.
I’ve been considering a few of my other options already because I’m worried. What if something else breaks or one of the furnaces, the AC, or even the water heater busts at extreme temperatures? I can't let the tenants go for three months without a repair. That’s not cool for anybody. I know it’s taking some time. I went online about a week ago and the reports there are very disturbing. AHS's rates are very reasonable and I’m very pro home warranty, but tread carefully with American Home Shield. I will not recommend them.
I understand your concerns with the hold times your have endured as well as the customer service you have experienced to have the dishwasher repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution for the issues.

We submitted our first claim with AHS, which was related to the mold smell in my bathroom back in mid-October, and Service Express was assigned to us. Their guy came out within a week and he was unable to find the problem with the mold smell. There was also a dripping faucet which was never adjusted and he said he would fix the dripping faucet but it turned out that when we followed up with them they closed the claim instead of following up on it. So we asked them to re-open it because of the faucet and also because the mold smell was continuing.
Since all of the piping and sink looked to be okay, the contractor said it might be behind the wall but they wouldn't open up the wall. So we went ahead and open up the wall for them just so they can take a look back there and hoped that they had tools and machines that, perhaps, they could look back in to see if there were any molds, however, they didn't look. So we borrowed a stick with a camera from our friend and we found tons of old mold. But since we're not plumbers or technicians we were unable to figure out what was the source of it. We were hoping it would be enough that they would still come out and figure out the source of the issue.
My husband called Service Express directly quite a few time to follow up, but they were unresponsive. We were able to get a different company assigned to us through AHS a few weeks ago. They came out, took a look and also said that they weren't sure where the smell was coming from, so they couldn't help us with it. That made me a bit angry because now, we have a moldy smell in our bathroom that we can't do anything about. We are not going to renew the warranty when it expires next month. The warranty wasn't much of a huge help. We still have this ongoing problem that we're going to need to pay for out of our own pocket. But we both believe our home warranty should've taken care of it. So it's just one of those that we do it ourselves. We can choose our own contractor and it might be easier.
Hi, Laurie. I understand that your issues were not resolved through our contractors. There was definitely a need for you to have been informed of your coverage. The warranty would not have removed any mold, nor would we "look" for mold. Our policy is for mechanical failures or malfunctions. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to further assist.

American Home Shield has been great. We've lived here for quite a while, but this year has been a nightmare. The water heater blew up, the dishwasher broke down, and there were problems with the electricity and the garage door opener. But every single solitary contractor have been above and beyond fantastic and fast. They responded quickly, got the job done and fixed things before they became a problem.
Our recent experience was when something that was put in the dishwasher had broken off, had gone into the motor and froze up. The tech cleaned it out, pulled the little broken piece out of the motor and it worked fine. However last August, our AC went out in Arizona. I called and I was put on hold for two hours. It was absolutely miserable trying to get a hold of them. It went on and on and I got passed around.
Then I noticed that I could go online to submit a claim. So every time I've needed them since then, I went online because within 10 minutes, a representative would call and set up an appointment. With the water heater, the contractor called within 30 minutes and said, “We got a notice from your home warranty to set up and appointment with you.” Within a few hours, they were out here and got the job done. Then with the garage door opener, the guy came out within an hour. So other than the phone problem, I would tell a friend that American Home Shield is reasonably priced and quick to respond with fantastic contractors.

We bought our place in October and the sellers bought American Home Shield home warranty for us. There was no outlay of cash to worry about, we're covered for the whole year. Recently, we had a problem with the dishwasher, it wasn't draining. I submitted a claim online and the technician came out quickly. However, the problem was difficult for them to diagnose. And then, when we decided to get it replaced, they figured out it was because there was a problem with the motor. It was overheating.
I started the claim back in October. And then AHS had two different people come out because the first guy couldn’t figure what the problem was and the second guy was better at diagnosing it. He noticed that the fan had melted on the motor. They decided it wasn't going to be safe to just replace the motor so we got a brand-new dishwasher and everything was finally settled. Other than the dishwasher, our toilet was leaking and they came out and they fixed it for us too. Overall, American Home Shield works very well. I would tell friends that in buying a new house, I would get a home warranty since there's just so many things that could go wrong when you first get a house that you’re not sure about.

Submitting my claim with American Home Shield was interesting. It's way easier to do it online than it is to try and call. I've had issues each time I tried calling. After submitting, you'd normally get a phone call from whoever is assigned within a certain amount of time. However, I wish they had more options because they don't allow you to break it down too much and give more details. It would be up to the contractor to call and ask what the issue is exactly. We've used American Home Shield twice now and we've gotten the same good guys. Mostly, they were able to get the job done on the first visit, but sometimes they had to order parts.
With the first claim, the contractor had to check the pipe out. Afterwards, there was an approval process from American Home Shield. We have a big cast iron drainage pipe in the basement and there was a big crack in it. They said it would be way easier to cut it and rerun a PVC from the first storey toilet down and do that whole thing in PVC. But they've only gotten approval for just the cracked section. I have the cast iron being supported by PVC and two rubber pipe clamps now. The repair has been good and we haven't had any leaks from what they did.
With our last one, the pipe had the little pinhole. You can see the actual pinhole and it was putting out such a fine mist. It was hidden in this flock of wood that was near a chimney so I didn't know if the roof was leaking or if this was a plumbing issue. AHS doesn't have a way for you to choose multiple stuff and then they have you pay by the contractor that comes out. If you had to choose an electrician to come out, you had to pay $75. And then if it's something related where you need both electrician and plumber, then it would be 75 bucks for the plumber and 75 bucks for the electrician.

I had to get them back on the phone and hold on the line for them and tell them that I haven't heard anything yet. The contractor called me eventually and he came right out. Apparently, there were two things that were causing the dryer to let out cold air. He replaced both of them and then he left.
However, the light went out and he didn't fix it nor told me about it. Also, the thing where the lint goes came off, but he told me that they didn't do it. Now I have to find somebody to do that because he said they don’t fix that. I thought that AHS would have whatever was wrong fixed, but they only got the two things replaced. And I was disappointed with that because they're $46.99 a month. Because of that, I've decided that when the term is up for this year, I'm not going to renew my contract with them. I had my home microwave oven go down. I couldn’t get a hold of AHS even though I was directed to contact the replacement division of AHS. I didn’t have time to spend one, two, or three hours on the phone, which I did more than on one occasion. They finally sent a notice from the manufacturer that they were replacing it and I had to follow the step. And after a frustrating two days, we finally got through and in 10 days, my microwave was replaced, which was way too long.
Recently, American Home Shield replaced a refrigerator on a rental property I have. The new refrigerator sounded like a freight train and I went over to experience it myself. The technician didn’t stay to listen to the machine and it began making a loud motor noise immediately after it was installed. When I went in to follow the procedures on how to contact AHS, I couldn’t get through on the telephone again. It had the same lame recording it had for three months, that the phone system was backed up, heavy volume, “we're working on it”, etc.
I was later told by the rep from AHS that all I had to do was call the manufacturer because it was a new product. I said to them that had there been a link or some notification on their website, I would have seen that and this whole thing would have been avoided. So, when I went to social media after days of frustration in trying to call, within a minute or two when I went on Facebook, we got an automated response saying that I needed to get a hold of the new appliance dealer, which is GE.
A day later, the regional manager for AHS who lives in Reno, Nevada where the problem was happening called me directly and explained the same thing I had read on social media. I pointed out to her that it was nowhere on their website that it was all I had to do. After all these years, it was the first time I had to deal with a new product that wasn’t working and after hearing the explanation well, it made sense. She was very nice and she gave me her email address and said that I had to call GE because the refrigerator was a new product and it was out of their hands. She also said that they have been working on the phone problem for months and they hired thousands of people to answer the phone.
American Home Shield took care of the problem, but it was a very simple fix that no one was listening to because they couldn’t hear me. Nothing was done until that point in time when I contacted social media out of frustration. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. If they’ve gotten too big for their britches, then they should get out of the game. But I'm satisfied that social media rang the bell to the representative regionally who responded quickly and resolved the issue. I still have American Home Shield for our main home but I'm dropping it on the last rental that I have resolved it since it's closing at the end of the month.
I enjoyed reading your review and I am pleased to hear that we have been able to fulfill each service requests. I appreciate the kind words and would like to thank you for being a customer of AHS!

We finally got a hot summer here in Louisiana, and when I turned on our AC, it wasn't cooling. We looked at it and there was frost on it. We turned it off and I got on the internet and logged in to my account and put in my AC information. The AC people called me and said they’d be here at a certain time. I couldn't do it that day and I asked if they could come on a different day because I got work. And they worked with me on that date.
When the contractor came, he checked the inside and he asked me to check the outside. He said it looked like I was a little low on Freon. He tightened up the nozzle, which evidently had a very tiny leak in it. He fixed it, he came inside and made sure the AC works. He sat there for few minutes to make sure it continued to work and it wasn't frosting up. And then, he got the paperwork done, sat there and talked with me for a half second being nice, and then left. I liked the contractor. This AC claim did a whole lot better than the first one for our refrigerator that was freezing up. Literally, I had a freezer instead of a refrigerator. We put in a claim and the contractor came out and checked it. He said that I needed a part, got my account checked and left, and I heard nothing more. And it was the week before Thanksgiving, so I gave it that week and the next week. And then, I gave it one more week.
I finally called them and asked what was going on. And they said they didn't have the claim because it was dismissed. I told them that I have heard nothing from anybody yet and wished somebody had told. I would have gone out and bought a new fridge. And then, about three days later, I got online and said that I still had no contact from them about why it was closed or anything else such as sending me a quick email saying that it was closed. And it was after I had talked to the repair company so I was not impressed. It was over Thanksgiving and I didn't even have milk for my coffee that entire three weeks. But now that they fixed my air conditioner, I like them. I would tell my friends not to wait three weeks before they get any response from them. If they don't respond back in a week, they should get a hold of them.

Our hot water heater started leaking and we needed to have it replaced. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the call back was very quick. They were very responsive. The whole issue was resolved in a matter of few days. The contractor was very professional, very polite and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done to resolve my issues. He came on Tuesday, was back by Friday with the part or with the new hot water heater. He installed it in a matter of no time and was gone in 2 hours flat.

There is an ongoing plumbing problem at my house. Mostly the kitchen and the washer area clogs and I have to tell American Home Shield to come and drain it out every two or three months. It just keeps occurring. This last time I had somebody come out and he decided he couldn't fix it after spending about 10 minutes then gave a "thank you for your $75." He said he would contact American Home Shield and tell them that he wasn't capable of doing what was needed and somebody else would have to come out. He didn't really want to get his hands dirty at all so he just left. I've had these people out before for other things. That one was a surprise because I had already waited almost a week for them to be able to come out. In the meantime, I couldn't wash clothes and do dishes. I couldn't drain and everything was complicated.
After five days of waiting, I had to start all over again and get somebody out to actually drain it. So far it has been doing good but he indicated there was an issue somewhere under the house. Basically, it was two weeks before I actually got my plumbing fixed and it’s not great. American Home Shield itself is fine but sometimes it is very hard to get in touch if I had to call. It's like pulling teeth back if I'm going to be able to reach anybody. Also, I’ve been with them for a long time and my house is getting older, so I feel like I need to have someone but they don't cover much sometimes.

American Home Shield sent a guy from One Hour Heating to take a look at my heater and said it had a leak. He took my stuff apart, left it and said he was ordering parts. But two weeks went by and nothing happened. I called him back and couldn't get a hold of him. I called American Home Shield a few times and told them to make a matter of record on what I was going through and they did that. Finally, this company got blacklisted and they’re no longer representing American Home Shield.
By the time I called American Home Shield and they sent another contractor out, I also called One Hour Heating and told them if somebody didn’t get back to me, then I was going to call the ConsumerAffairs hotline and let them deal with them. So I finally got a hold of some of the top leadership in there and told them what I went through. But I canceled their stuff.
American Home Shield sent down another technician from another company who said it wasn’t a leak and nothing was wrong. He was excellent and everything was checked out fine. I also called American Home Shield to see if I can recoup the money that I spent when I had One Hour Heating come out and finish up the work. I even ordered the parts myself to try to get my unit back up because I was so long without AC in my house. And that was a horrible experience. I still didn’t get my refund from them. American Home Shield rebounded it with the gentleman who came out and did an excellent job. He has his own business and he’s local, too. I’m going to recommend American Home Shield. The representatives I've spoken on the phone were very great people as well.

We’ve had numerous interactions with American Home Shield over several years and it’s been wonderful with them. This time, I called to submit a claim for our roofing and their reps were great. We had two guys come out and give us estimates. The guy from Platinum Roofing said I had two roof trusses that were both broken and needed to be repaired. He also said that a whole line of roof tiles and the one above it needed to be taken off and he wanted to charge me $2650.
The second guy was great. When he came in, he shook my hand immediately. He took pictures of everything and said we have one roof truss and three tiles that were broken. He charged me $975 for that. We had the roofing inspected and found that the first guy was just lying. I told American Home Shield about the first person and they said that they were very sorry that it had happened and that they would be sure that it was recorded.
When the second contractor's guys came out, they did the work then cleaned up after themselves. They were very efficient and professional. And since we’re relocating, we had a relocation firm come in to do a super-stringent inspection and they were very happy. We've recommended American Home Shield to our children and to all of our friends. It’s just definitely the way to go.

Three weeks ago, American Home Shield came out to troubleshoot the thermostat and ended up replacing it for one of my units. I submitted the claim online but I’d rather talk to somebody. The contractor was very punctual. I suggested it might be a thermostat problem because the read out of it was not real stable. I’d push a button and it would blink on and off and couldn’t get the unit to come on. He agreed with me and went right to the problem.
I also had American Home Shield over a couple of times working on units and sometimes it got real hectic because it seemed like every time I called them, I was getting a new person. They've got hundreds of people and one of the techs I got had his headquarters out of Florida while the last one I called was from a headquarters out of Kentucky, but they have small offices here in town. So, it would be nice if American Home Shield would have some continuity in the people that were coming to serve my house. But the ones they sent out seemed to be technically oriented in what they were doing and they didn’t leave until the job was done. Other than that, I had an excellent experience with them and I recommended American Home Shield to people for years. They used to give you a small monetary reward for bringing somebody in but they don’t do that anymore.

It is a lot easier cleaning dishes when you have a garbage disposal, and he fixed mine.

I made a claim for an issue with my plumbing. I went online to do that and it was an easy process. I clicked the service I needed and hit submit. It was easy to navigate their site and it wasn't confusing at all. They assigned All-Pro Plumbing to me and they called me very quickly. However, on the day that the contractor was supposed to come and take a look at the issue, they had to reschedule. He didn't have the appropriate equipment that day because it was being used on another job. It was an issue for us because we had limited use of the bathroom. But he came the next day, cleaned the sewer line and got the issue fixed.
We've also submitted claims for our fridge and dishwasher and the people they sent out also fixed the issues. However, it took them a month to get the part for the refrigerator but they got it fixed and it now works great. AHS is well worth the price that we paid being able to have people come out and fix things in a timely manner.

The mechanism on my refrigerator that releases the ice would stop working. The ice would always jam up in the ice bin. I had a refrigerator, not an ice maker. I submitted a claim with AHS online and it was easy to do and convenient, too. The first guy that came out came out twice because we had to do a recall. The ice feature on the refrigerator quit working after he fixed it. He told me pretty much when he came out the second time that it was a manufacturer's defect, that they don’t recognize it as such and I just pretty much have to live with it. We also couldn’t even make the ice bin fit into the mechanism so, the ice bin was almost kind of free-floating. It’s kind of scary, especially since it’s in the door. If we open the door, it’s there and it slips. And then, that’s when it was worse off than it was before because that was when the ice didn’t set back in. Now, I didn’t even have a receptacle that was even good for the ice to fall down into.
It stopped working again so, I called, spoke with someone and they were going to send him back out again. The person I talked to was good to work with and I told her that I didn't want that guy to come back. She sent out a Sears repairman and I can’t say how great he was. He wanted to take his time and he fixed it. He also told me how to prevent the problem from happening again because it was kind of a recurring thing. The first guy seemed nice the first time but the second time, I got the impression he was just blowing us off by then. He wanted to move on and he said to call it a day. It was still frozen and he left it and said to let it defrost completely for two hours. He wanted to get out of there, but he wasn’t rude. I’ve had American Home Shield before in the past and I told myself I’d never do it again because I really had a couple of really bad experiences years before. Other than that, I have recommended AHS to other people because it has been a good experience.

I told them about the garage door opener and they said that they'd send a technician out. But they sent an electrician out, not a garage door opener repair person. I have had a number of American Home Shield claims recently and all of them have ultimately been resolved. AHS, however, has gone from hard to get through to impossible to get through. I was on hold for 45 minutes. Then, there were repeated mistakes. For example, I specified that I need to have a gas stove repaired. I had to wait two weeks because the repair person that they assigned to me did not call to set up an appointment right away. And then, he came only to say, "I do not repair gas stoves." Then, I have to go back into another process. So, although, American Home Shield saves me money in terms of the repair eventually being covered, they have gone from being a useful service to extremely aggravating because of the lack of phone support, attention to detail, and the extreme hold times.
But some of the issues could have been because of the vendors. For example, a vendor said, "Well, there's an issue here. American Home Shield will contact you." Then, they contacted AHS after two weeks. AHS then contacted me and said, "The vendor never told us to contact you." Now, to me, the ultimate responsibility still lies with American Home Shield because if they are not having their vendors follow through on what they are saying to the customer and having the customer waiting, the problem is still with their overall service delivery. I would not recommend Home Shield to anybody else. If there are other companies providing the same service, I would recommend you go with the other company. The aggravation is too great.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Also, my air conditioning was working in good status but they ended up replacing that together with the furnace just to be on code for the city. My heat pump was acting up. I submitted a claim online and then a representative from the contractor called me. The Comfort Service came and took a look at it. I've been getting good service but it took them a few trips to actually find what the problem was. It was a bad water somewhere in the well. Even so, I'm very satisfied with the contractor. He's a whole lot better than the one they sent me before. They sent me a contractor called GSSN in the past and their services were very poor. I would recommend this gentleman to anybody.
I also like the promptness that they got in touch with me and made the appointment. It didn't take them long. The one contractor before came and looked at it, but took him two weeks to fix it and it's a pretty simple part. Even though this new guy had to come back a couple of different times because it kept blowing a fuse and he had a little trouble pinpointing what was causing it, he came back in a timely manner.
The heat pump worked just fine since the repair. It didn't work better because it's about 10 years old. It's not going to be at its peak performance, but it's still serving the purpose. Also, in the past, I did a work order and they assigned it to another company. I just wish American Home Shield would let you have input on who they awarded the work order to because I wasn't satisfied with the one I had before. Even though they fixed it, it took them two to three weeks to fix something. They should've had the part on the truck that day or a day or two later.
Nowadays, when you get things overnight, it wasn't a part that was unique or anything that would take a special order. It's something they should've had and it took two weeks to fix the air conditioner in a 95-degree weather. If American Home Shield got a contractor who's not giving very good service, they ought to cut to ties with that contractor.
Also, they ought to give the customer some more flexibility. In other words, if you cannot find a contractor in your area, you should be able to go and get a contractor who's not signed up with them to do you work without going through all this extra stuff that they make you do. They make you expedite an order or something so they can okay it upfront and stuff. When you call in to speak to somebody and when they put you on hold, it takes you two hours to talk to somebody and that really pisses me off. Even so, I would recommend Home Comfort Service to anybody. I would tell a friend that I've had good experiences with them but not every time. There has been a couple of times that I would think they should do things a little differently than what they've done or followed up.

But, as far as renewing, I'm not convinced that it is something that we need to pay for. We tried to file three claims with them. We tried to call them but we couldn't talk to anybody to schedule the service and could only do it online. They have a list of contractors that when you go to their website and you click on a plumber then a plumber would call you. That part worked and they were great at scheduling, but with fixing things, that didn't work that well.
Also, their techs were not so fantastic. With the two other claims we've filed with AHS, we've paid $75 both times yet none of the issues have been fixed. The first claim was for our fridge which was making a funny noise, our washing machine that was unbalanced and the dishwasher that was leaking. The guy fixed the dishwasher. He also got a new fan for the fridge but it still makes noise and then the washing machine is still making noise as well.
The other claim was for a leaky faucet in the bathroom and we were getting some sediment in our water, so we thought it might be from the hot water heater. The contractors fixed the faucet except that they fixed it so good that the water didn't come out at all. We had to call them back and they had to come out the next day to fix the faucet but it was leaking again. We were given a new hot water heater but now we have even more sediment in our water. My garage door was not functioning so I submitted a claim with AHS by phone. I called during the week and the next day, the contractor was calling me to make an appointment. It was fair enough and fast. The interactions with the contractor were very professional and he explained everything. Everything is doing fine now since the repair. Having a home warranty is very important especially when the husband is not very handy in doing things at home. I will surely recommend AHS to others.

Our refrigerator wasn't cooling so I went online and submitted a claim. The repair person then came and the unit can't be fixed. AHS then told me that in 24 to 48 hours somebody would follow up but nobody did. So I called them and I was on hold for 40 minutes. Then, just as someone came into my office, they picked up. I heard it and the rep was there for three seconds and then it was too late, and they hung up. So, that was not good. Then I tried to do the online chat and it was very good. But I had to call in again because nobody followed up. I was then told that I needed to email the appliance purchasing. I did that but the email bounced back because the person I talked to gave me the wrong email address. She was very nice but it was frustrating to get the wrong email. It has been a long process and we've been without our refrigerator for over two weeks now. I finally got the right email yesterday and finally emailed them but I have not heard back.

I've been using the services of American Home Shield since some time last year and I had a couple of plumbing issues in the most recent claim I made with them. One issue was that my toilet kept running but the problem was with something other than the piece in the back. The other issue was that my bathtub was stopped up and would not drain. Submitting a claim for these issues was easy and the plumbing has been working well since the repairs were done.
Usually, I submitted claims over the phone and it was good speaking with the reps, and there was no hassle. The contractors that American Home Shield sent out were very courteous and knowledgeable, and they seemed to know what they were doing. It took a week to get a contractor out and, at the times that I’ve needed them, the contractors were able to do the repairs the same day.
Thanks Dynitia. We truly appreciate you taking time to update your experience. I am glad that we have been able to properly service you. Have a beautiful week.

I've had American Home Shield since February when I closed on this condo. I just moved in and I've already had to call them twice. Their customer service seems to be really good. They want to take care of you and give you a good experience. When I called in for a heating issue, the representative took care of it and our interaction was very short. I was contacted within a day or two and the man sent out was very pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and took his time to figure out what the problem was. It ended up being the thermostat not working properly and he said that the wiring wasn’t right. He had to move some wires around and he did a good job.

I submitted a claim on the phone for my dishwasher because the tray broke. Speaking with American Home Shield on the phone was a little long which was expected. They sent a guy and he was on time. He was no problem at all. The dishwasher was fixed and it has been working good since. AHS has been excellent.

I saw some water leaking out by my front door. I figured out that it was probably coming from the water spigot that comes from the outside of the house. When I first submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I got an email the next day that Brother Plumbing was going to show up. It was on a Thursday and the contractor didn’t show up to my house until Tuesday. And when he did, he pretty much just looked in and said that he wasn't going to do it. His exact words were “I’m too old to be digging through a concrete.” That ended up not having to be done but he didn’t take the time to inspect it further. He said that he was going to contact AHS and let them know that he wasn't doing the job and AHS would send somebody else. So on Friday, I called the guy because I haven’t heard anything. I had his cell number because he called me when he was going to come in the house.
I called and asked him if he had let AHS know that he wasn't going to fix my problem, and he said he didn't have the time to get in touch with them. I told him that AHS wouldn't send somebody else out until he told them that he wasn't doing it, and he said he knew. Then three days later, on a Sunday afternoon, I got an email from AHS saying that they were sending Double R Plumbing. The contractor called me the next day and said that they could meet me at my house the next morning or afternoon between 12 and 3, and I said okay. The next morning, they called me at about 10 and said that they were kind of ahead of schedule and they asked if we could meet at that time instead. I agreed and so I went to the house and they showed up, and within an hour, they had me fixed and back to normal. I was very impressed with Double R Plumbing. Overall, submitting a claim to American Home Shield was a good experience.

There was a leak in a pipe that ran between my house and the garage, which is where our washing machine is, so I submitted a claim online with AHS and the contractor came within a couple of days. He was great. He saw the problem, gave me recommendations on what I could do and left a card so I that I could call it in. He also let me know that it probably wasn't going to be covered because he knew the ins and outs of AHS. But he still submitted to see if he could. AHS then called within five hours and let me know that they weren't going to cover it. Essentially our call will ask if something that I was told when I re-up my coverage will be covered and I'm usually told that it won't be. They also wouldn't replace until a unit fails. I have a breaker panel which many people have told me will fail very soon and they won't replace it. I ended my American Home Shield because my issue couldn't be covered.
I understand that you have canceled your AHS contract due to the lack of coverage you have experienced to have the outside leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and follow up with the issues that occurred.

With AHS, you can never just talk to a person. You talk to the machine. You tell them what's going on and they send somebody out. I was hesitant to call them because one of my previous experiences was so bad. But I had to get the upstairs bathtub, my kitchen sink, and the plumbing in my powder room downstairs fixed so I called them and they sent somebody out. They were courteous, did the job, and took the money out of my account. They were also courteous and professional. I had another tech come out for my thermostat. They were courteous and professional, too. But I had to wait over the weekend because I called them on a Friday and they came right out, but they didn’t have the thermostat. It's working better now. I would tell others that American Home Shield seems to be okay but they should not pay the money to their agents that come out because that was where my bad experience was.

Our water heater wasn't working. I went online and submitted the issue to American Home Shield and they fetched it out for the right location. I paid everything online. The plumber called me and the technician that came out was very nice and professional. He told me about the problem and pointed it out. He ordered the parts and got the parts the next morning. A couple of days later when the contractor was able to get me rescheduled, they were able to come out, and the water heater has been fine since. My overall experience with AHS has been great and I recommend to everyone to get them.

When I was using my heater I heard a noise and it went like, "Boom!" Everything went well when I made a claim to American Home Shield. They asked me what was wrong and what I needed service on. I told them about it and they sent somebody out. The technician said the blower fan had loosened up. He tightened it up and fixed it. Then I also had him do a tune-up but I had to pay him myself for that. The heater seems to be working well now. Before I was afraid to turn the heater on because I didn’t know what was going on after I heard that noise a couple of times. I decided to just turn it off so for about a week, I was without heat. It was a little cold at night but it was okay during the day.
I’ve had to have American Home Shield service for quite a number of years and this was not a new service for me. And even when I was in my other house before I moved to where I am now, I had it for quite a few years. But whenever I’ve had to use it they’ve always fixed the problem so I can’t ask for any more than that and I would recommend it to other friends and family. I would tell them that whenever service was requested AHS fulfilled that. I always just call and the problem is solved. I’ve always been satisfied with it and I haven't had any other insurance for these types of problems other than AHS.

I have a couple of friends that have American Home Shield's warranty program and they had told me about it. The only claim we've ever had was the one with the filter on the pool. I submitted the claim over the phone and they went ahead and got back with us. The contractor came out in the beginning, looked at it and saw what they were going to need. My husband talked with the tech and he told my husband what he's going to do. It had to have a new filter and the tech also said that we're going to need a new pump soon. He said he has to replumb some of it some way too.
The tech got the part and he and his wife came out but he went back to town, got more pipes and came back. It had a two-inch pipe and they brought it down to about 3/4 inch because they didn't have the right fittings and they didn't want to go back to town again. The tech is not healthy as he has a colostomy bag and he had been here for hours and hours. My husband saw that he was really struggling. The tech didn't check for leaks when he left. My husband was watching and he saw that it had three leaks so the next day, he got the bigger pipe. It wouldn't pull because it wasn't getting enough pressure so my husband replumbed it himself and all three leaks were fixed. Nonetheless, we were very satisfied with American Home Shield. I have sent their website to my son in Jacksonville and I told him about them.

Besides being on hold for two hours before anybody answers, American Home Shield's claims reps were pleasant. When our heat pump went out, it took the service guy two weeks to get out here and it was in the middle of 0 degrees. And it was the worst experience we've had. I was at my wit's end and nobody really seemed to care. Also, the contractor came and he seemed rude and not personable. But the repair has been fine.
Hello, Kimberly. I agree, two weeks is too long to be without heat during the winter months. I am so sorry that you had to wait for that work order to be resolved. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

The garbage disposal had some issues when my wife was cleaning up. She tried to blend a little too much and it ended up burning out. I submitted a claim for it through American Home Shield’s online portal and it was painless. The first time I submitted it, the company it was assigned to never reached out to me. But the second time, the company reached out to me immediately. Then, it was fixed in a day. They even took the time to explain to my wife what happened and how we could fix it in the future. The few times I've had to reach out to AHS, it has been solid. It's solid for everyone to have around. I would recommend this company.
