American Home Shield's reps have always been great when I submit my claims with them on the phone. Recently, I filed a claim for my refrigerator and washer. The contractor who came out to fix the washer seemed really nice and it has been working great since the repair. American Home Shield had to send somebody else to work on my refrigerator and I'm still waiting for them to come back out and put the parts on it. So far, I only had one trouble with one contractor and I told AHS that I didn’t want to deal with that company. So now I’m not having problems anymore, especially in getting stuff done.

American Home Shield has been very helpful. Every time I call, they've had somebody come on out and do a good job. The latest claim I filed was for my heater that had a shortage. I left a voicemail and then they gave me a call back over the weekend and got the plumber out immediately. The contractor was friendly and let me know if everything was going to be okay. I felt like if there had been a problem about anything, they would have communicated with me. The way they conducted everything else went well. And now, the heater is working beautifully. The contractor left me a card, which made me feel good. And I was holding on to their card just in case anything goes wrong, so I can give them a direct call. I also had my dishwasher and dryer fixed. I called American Home Shield and they had somebody come out and provide a good service. I would definitely give them a good referral.

We recently had two claims with American Home Shield. We had a water heater that was giving us trouble and I filed a claim on the phone. It was late in the evening and we enjoyed the conversation with the rep. We encountered a very pleasant young lady, and the process went very smoothly. The technicians that came out were awesome. They were knowledgeable about the product, very courteous, and professional. They were very careful with and respectful of our furniture and carpeting and everything in the house. They were also clean and they left the house in the order that they found it. I was very impressed, and I would use them again in a heartbeat.

AHS replaced the water heater the same day, and that experience, in particular, was a little outstanding. We've had some difficulty with AHS in the past with timing, miscommunication, and no communication. We've had claims that were not addressed as quickly as we would have liked. But AHS is a company that we believe in, so we stick with the process and try to overlook the bad and keep all eyes on the good. AHS is a great value and a great way to have some peace of mind knowing that I'm not going to be faced with an enormous bill if an appliance goes out. It's a kind of payment over time which is easier for a lot of people. We always recommend American Home Shield.

Our heat pump was not working efficiently so we called American Home Shield to check our outside unit. I filed the claim over the phone and it was very easy. It took less than five minutes. I told the rep the problem then she gave me the company’s info and their telephone number. She also gave me my claim number. Within 72 hours, the contractor came out and fixed the problem in less than 15 minutes. He was professional. It was nice since he even called me on the phone and told me to set my thermostat to emergency heating until he could get out and fix it because it was cold. The heat pump has been perfectly fine since the repair. I’m super pleased with my experience with American Home Shield. I’m considering on renewing our warranty with them for next year. With how easy everything was, I’d definitely say something to a friend or family member about AHS.

I got AHS for a little over a year. My furnace went out and they had someone come out and fix it. Submitting the claim was easy and it’s great. I usually submit it online and it was simple. My experience with the contractor was great. The contractor called me at 9 o’clock the next morning and the guy was only there for 20 minutes. He pulled the part out that was broken and replaced it. It wasn’t a bit of inconvenience for me. Since the repair, the furnace has been running better than ever. Overall, I received great service and I recommend AHS to everybody. They are definitely the best and cheapest way to go for home repairs.

I had claims with American Home Shield for our stove top, our oven and we had a heater problem too. I submitted the claims online and the website was fine. The technician called the next day or two and was out there a couple of days later. My stove works fine but I'm still waiting for an oven door. They decided that they would potentially rebuild the hinges. However, it's been about five weeks now and there was no contact. And, we've been out of heat for about a week and a half now.

American Home Shield changed up their policies a little bit differently and they're better than they used to be. The communication part has improved and when I recently called them about our heater, their reps seemed like they were more intact. Before, there was lack of communication and they would transfer me from one person to another. They would verbally give me the phone number of the vendor that was going to come out and I had to call that vendor if they didn't call me. Now, immediately, I got a text message from the actual vendor. They let me know when their tech was going to be here and his name. I'm hoping that it's the same type of service we'd get if we need to use them again.

They may have also developed better relationships with vendors because the vendors they had before were terrible. One thing different now is that you pay the $75 to AHS prior to when the vendor comes out, instead of paying it to the vendor when he arrives. The tech who came out this time was awesome. He was very thorough and he explained everything into detail as to what was wrong and why we needed to have a new part in our heater. He was in full communication the whole time and our heater works great now. He was also the same person that came out the first time and the one that came back two days later. We usually don't get that.

Our AC stopped working. It was the transformer and I had to get my thermostat replaced. I then called AHS to submit a claim and it was very easy. Total Air got in touch with me and sent a guy out the next day. They sent people twice and both times the contractors have been very friendly. They were here for an hour each time and they cleaned up after themselves. They did their job. It was a good experience. I was surprised at how easy the experience with them went. AHS is worth the monthly payment because who knows how much that would have cost us if we called somebody out there. Then, if anything else goes wrong then they can call y'all for that, too. It's definitely a good value for what you get.

I’ve had claims with AHS regarding a faucet, refrigerator and a stove vent. I submitted them on the web and overall, the experience has been okay. But the faucet has been a problem with the vendor, the repair shop that was sent out. They’ve been very non-responsive. I'm still waiting for a part and for them to finish that, and that started in September. The technician was out within about two or three days. They were polite. They just didn’t do their job.

They were able to fix the original problem, which was the inside of the faucet. It took four months for them to get the part, and with no follow up, with me not knowing what's going on, and with the faucet leaking. It took until December to get the part. They came out and fixed it and did it promptly. But then, they damaged the faucet. It got all scratched up in the repair, and I'm still waiting for a part. They never called me and I have no clue again as to what's going on. I have called in about 15 times on this to both the technicians and American Home Shield. But there’s no follow-up from them. It's very frustrating. But it was only the plumbing that I wasn't happy. AHS is worth checking into. I think on a new home, particularly one that's 60 years old, it's good to have the warranty for a couple of years, at least, because you never know what you're getting into when you buy a house.

When I purchased my home, it came with American Home Shield warranty. What people didn't tell me was that the warranty was not paid until closing calls take effect, which means, now I have to wait for some lawyer to send them the money. So, prior to AHS receiving their money, if I have any issues, they only honor one of those issues and I happened to have that situation occur. Day one, I moved into the house and something went wrong, so we called American Home Shield and they came out and fixed it. The technicians were also professional.

Day three, something else broke and I called AHS and they said that I already had my one issue and that until someone pays them, they can’t honor the contract. How did I have a contract if no one paid for it? So, that’s just a shady way of doing business. I had to come out of pocket with the $600 and they had to reimburse me which took them about 3 weeks. Also, I was double-billed once but they took care of that. AHS is worth it but be aware and hope that nothing goes wrong within the first three weeks because if it does, you’re going to pay $600.

I couldn’t even leave a message so, I contacted AHS and they immediately assigned it to another vendor who contacted me instantly. When they came out, their service was phenomenal and the freezer has been working perfectly since the repair. I filed another claim today for my washer that was broken and I assume they would be a follow up with me next week to confirm the appointment. I also hope they get the vendor to reach out to me by then. I submitted both of my claims online which was super easy to do and so far, I’ve been very pleased with AHS' service.

I am a new consumer of American Home Shield and I got a contract for each of my two homes. When I called to sign on, I got the information and the warranty started in November. I had 30 days to wait until I could call and I didn't need anything within those 30 days anyhow so that didn't bother me. But I was charged for the month of November even though I didn't have any claims and I could not have put in a claim with them. I don't think it was fair enough to pay for a contract if you're not allowed to get service on it.

Despite that, I recommended American Home Shield to one of my children. He checked online and he said it came out the best. When I had someone come to check my air conditioner, it was not an emergency but they said over the phone that the technician was going to come in two days so he came pretty quickly. He needed a new filter but he didn't have the filter to fit it and I didn't have that size of filter either so he couldn't get it going. But he checked it outside and inside and told me that I should get a new filter.

When my refrigerator icemaker wasn’t working, I submitted a claim to AHS. It was a good experience and I did it by phone because when I do stuff online, I always push the wrong button and I follow a trail that I can’t get out of. The AHS representatives are friendly and efficient. And I’ve been lucky with all the contractors that AHS sent. They are professional and courteous. But AHS has been slow to respond when my air conditioner went out in the middle of the summer. I had eight house guests at that time and there was no air so it was inconvenient. It took me three weeks to get it repaired. Since the repair, the performance of the air con has been pretty good. AHS saved me because I moved into a house that has four air conditioners and within a year all four of them went out.

Last week, my heater went out and I called AHS. I'm 75 years old and it surprised that they would not supply me any plumbers that were available 24/7. That’s an important thing for long-term emergencies and people that can’t wait that long. I paid my $100 deductible with my Visa card and then they sent a plumber. He came here at the time he said he was going to come and he was good. He replaced the part in the heater and I encouraged him to come back in the spring to do a cleaning for me. But then I didn't have heat starting Friday until Tuesday, which was a really long time. It was nightmarish.

Also, I once had a claim for my water heater and the plumber that they sent out charged me $700 to take the old one out of the house. He told me I did not have access to the outside even though it went down with the help of one man when it was installed and nobody said a word about taking the other one out. It was atrocious to pay that much. I would not say I highly recommend American Home Shield, but their warranty works.

I had two problems with our toilet. One was the stoppage, and that was resolved. The other problem is a high-pitched squeal that occurs when the toilet is flushed, and that issue remains. I requested a return, and the plumber came back out and he told me that because the toilet isn’t technically broken and it operates fine, American Home Shield will not pay for any coverage for whatever it needed to resolve that problem. I’ve spoken with American Home Shield reps, and they’re a very difficult company to work with. They have preferred technicians that they like to assign because there’s a relationship in ownership between them and this other service company. But this other service company cancels calls and does not show up. It’s a constant battle almost every time to get somebody who would get out and do the job the first time.

I've been using American Home Shield since I bought my first house back in late '99. The realtor bought a policy with them as a housewarming gift. I enjoyed and liked the service. I've had it for almost 20 years now and I have a couple of different policies with them. I recently submitted a claim for one of my rental houses and another one for my residence. Both of them have been closed. At the residence, a piece of plumbing in my basement started leaking on the floor. I submitted an online claim and monitored them on my phone.

The first part of the claim was done at the beginning of November or end of October, but it was after New Year before they finally came and fixed it. The drain in my basement broke before Thanksgiving holidays. The first technician showed up within 48 hours and they have been great. I've got nothing but good things to say about them. However, AHS wanted a second opinion, but they sent a request to somebody who was on a Christmas vacation. For two weeks, the drain sat there waiting for him to show up. I finally found out the name of the company they were going to use so I called them myself. The answering machine said that they won't be back until after the New Year. If AHS had bothered to call their answering machine, they would have known they were not in the office and that it was closed for two weeks.

Also, I just had a washing machine repaired, which seemed to take a month. When they were here about five months ago working on the same issue, it went on for almost eight weeks. We had to order a part, but they wouldn't let me schedule the final repair until I had the part on hand and they don't schedule appointments for at least two weeks. In the last six months, it has been out of commission for half the time. Fortunately, I have a spare washing machine in my basement and I was able to do the laundry.

The plumbers and the electricians they send out are really good folks around here. One of the appliance technicians has a rough demeanor about him, but I got along with him all right because I'm about the same way. However, over the last couple of years, their customer service seems to have really tapered off. It has gotten to be where the wait times are getting longer and longer before the technicians show up and make initial contact or get the repair done.

I used to find that having the policy was incredibly valuable. However, I don't feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for anymore because of the downtime. With plumbing and electrical, they usually get somebody out pretty quickly. And the technicians are ready to fix the issue, but then they have to go up to their car and spend an hour on the phone to get authorization. By the time that is done, the block of time he is allowed to work with me that day is used up and I'm going to have to reschedule because he has a timetable too.

I used to recommend American Home Shield to everybody, however, I can't, in good conscience, recommend them to anybody anymore. Right now, I'm faced with the decision to self-insure and set money every month and handle the problem myself. Although I'd continue to keep the three policies that I have, but I'm getting to the point where I'm probably going to stop in doing policies as they come up near their expiration.

But, it’s fixed now and it's working fine.

He diagnosed the problem quickly and made sure he replaced my unit with a like quality unit which I was very happy with. He had it on his truck, so there was no wait time.

However, last summer, I had to have my pool pump replaced but the technician failed to completely diagnose what the issues were. He had to come back out again because the timer had an issue. I was told when I called in that this would be a follow-up service and I wouldn't be charged the normal $100 service fee, but the next thing I know, I'm getting a bill in the mail for a new service. When I called and ask about it, I could never be connected to anybody that could figure out what the problem was. Our experience with American Home Shield last time was good, except for having to pay for the code changes. We had to have the water heater replaced and my husband submitted the claim over the phone. The contractor sent out was great and we love him. We have had a lot of trouble with our pipes in the past under the house and he took care of all those and didn't charge us extra. The first people that came out thought they were going to have to move the wall but he was able to get it in without doing that. It was a very good experience and he came out a couple of weeks later to check and make sure everything was okay. Our heater has been good since the repair and we've been very happy.

However, I would not want the guy that was out last year for the air conditioner and the refrigerator back again. He told us that our air conditioner was a piece of crap and that we shouldn't have bought it. And then when he came for the refrigerator and the freezer was on the bottom, I had to look at his butt crack the whole time. I also got billed for $100, which I had paid him. I sent copies of the canceled checks to American Home Shield but I didn't get another bill. Other than that, we've been very satisfied.

In the middle of a really bad below-freezing cold snap, I had my heat go out. I called American Home Shield and I had to wait on hold for ages. It was a terrible experience. The rep set me up with someone so I thought they would be coming out like they had put the 24-hour rush on it. This was probably 9 PM on a Thursday night. Then by 11 on Friday, I hadn’t heard from them, so I called them and they let me know that they saw contractors in my area but they didn’t see people in condo buildings. I had a long discussion that I was in a shared building and the unit was on the roof, but the rep didn’t believe me. So, they set me up with somebody else and I got the information on another contractor. The person didn’t call me, so I called them. They said they didn’t see people in my area either. This was Friday afternoon and we were about to hit the weekend.

I called back again and I've never had such a rude, belligerent person on the phone in my life. The lady kept saying that the 24-hour clock restarted and that AHS had 24 hours. I kept saying that I know that those were the procedures in front of her but these were mistakes on her end and these people are under contract with them. This went on and on and finally, I got to somebody in a unit that was very high up and he took care of me. He found somebody to come out and that person was wonderful. It was a contractor that doesn’t normally serve this area but they were great when they finally came. At that point, I've been without heat for about 48 hours and I'm pregnant so I was feeling sick and without heat. The technician came out and fixed my heater and then it turned out that they didn’t fix it all the way, so they had to come out again about a week and a half later when the heat went out.

The script that the AHS rep was reading to me was like something out of Saturday Night Live and they would respond with the worst thing that they could say in response at that point. When I called to say this contractor doesn’t serve my area, they said, "Okay, we understand that you don’t want the service because you don’t like them." It was the opposite of what I said and it just went on. I had to be hysterical before anyone would help me, and I don’t usually get hysterical. I work in public service and I'm used to dealing with characters, and this was out of control.

Another incident was when I had called AHS because I had problems with my appliances almost a year ago. My refrigerator wasn’t working and the contractor came. The technician thought it was fixed but it wasn’t, so I called them back and he came about three different times to fix it. And then I got an automatic notice from American Home Shield saying that it has been fixed. So I called back AHS to say that it wasn't and they said that the guy doesn’t work for a contract in my area anymore. I told them that the guy said a number of times that he has put in that this is broken and they said they were going to have to send somebody else out. Between the time my refrigerator broke and the time I got the offer from AHS, it was about eight months. And this involves the wait time when I call which is over an hour every time. It's just unbelievable.

So luckily, this time with the heat when I called in, the guy was able to help with the refrigerator too. I've got my offer on the refrigerator, but the unit doesn’t fit in the space I have so I'm hunting desperately to find a different fridge. But if it weren’t for this guy that I finally got after hours of complaining, I would be with Better Business Bureau. There were problems after problems. When this was all going on, I looked at the Better Business Bureau site and AHS has almost 10,000 complaints there which I wished I had seen before I signed up. Check the Better Business Bureau website because I am not alone in this.

I had a bathtub leak. I noticed it on the downstairs ceiling, which had a stain. I called AHS and their reps were very helpful and answered my questions. They sent someone out who knew his business. He checked out all the fixtures and he discovered the overflow drain was loose. He then tightened that up and he tested the tub to see if it leaked, and it didn't. Problem solved. I highly recommend AHS.

I needed to get a replacement faucet and a garbage disposal, and they were both listed on the same ticket from American Home Shield. The tech came out and replaced the garbage disposal, but he did not replace the sink faucet and he said that he would take care of it later. I called the vendor back a couple of times and they kept saying that they were going to reschedule and he was going to come back out and do that. Finally, they cancelled the order. I went to American Home Shield and reopened the order and talked to the vendor again. They cancelled it again saying that American Home Shield had not approved it. I called American Home Shield again and got it reopened.

The vendor finally came out and replaced the faucet and said that they had problems with the previous person that was doing the work, so they fired them. They did excellent work during the first visit when they took care of the garbage disposal, and the final visit when they replaced the faucet was perfect. They did a really good job. It just took between December and March to complete that service call and I was not happy with that. I’m happy with the final results though.

I had an underground leak, and there was water around the tub area. It happened on New Year’s and I didn’t have water for 10 days. I submitted the claim online and I went through the menu which was kind of a pain in the butt. And once it went through, it took about two days for somebody to come here. The company that was sent out was really good to work with, but there was nothing they could do about it. The leak wasn't covered by American Home Shield, and they told me how much it was going to be. I had to do a cash out which was way more than what they would have covered. There was no way that $1,000 was enough to pay for that.

But the guys at American Home Shield have been pretty good, and I had a few more claims with them. The warranty is very important especially if you don’t have the money out of pocket right away. The only problem is the cap because I don’t remember anyone going over that with me. It’s really important that customers know that an AC unit is a heck of a lot more than $1,000. Because it was so much money, and I had to shop around to get the best price. Even if you go with American Home Shield, if you don’t go and check around whatever else you can get, you’re stuck.

My AC unit was working for cooling but not for heating. Then I went online to submit the claim to American Home Shield. They have a very user-friendly website. AHS sent great contractors. They were very knowledgeable and very helpful. They explained what was wrong and what they were trying to do. They were very communicative and kept me posted. They called me to say that they didn’t have the part yet. But I waited two weeks before they were able to come back to get a part where normally if I were to pay for it, they would just go pick up the part. I understand it’s a warranty but it’s just not very timely.

I spent a good three weeks in the cold before the heating was fixed so that’s the downside of the warranty. And they spent a lot of money trying to fix something that probably should be replaced. The company that came said they would have replaced the unit because the part that is missing is already a $600 part. And they would rather pay the $600 for the part rather than avoid it to be a problem later.

The AC part was fixed but the heat didn’t work and they spent another bunch of money. So if I kept adding up, was it really worth fixing versus not. I didn’t care because it's working and if it doesn’t work I'm going to call AHS again. AHS is a pretty good deal and I would recommend them. I've had it for years in different properties and the downside is the wait. In addition, I would love the ability to pick the same contractor that came for a previous job.

Contractors that have worked with AHS in the past don’t like working with American Home Shield again in general. It gets them very frustrated. They really want to help sometimes and they seemed not to be able to because they have to do whatever it is they are told. But overall if you have patience, because it's not quick, eventually things will get fixed.

But when I had a claim for my furnace where the inverter went out, I had some issues with the furnace guys. A guy broke the piece as he was putting it in and they had to reorder it and it was another week before I got it. But then something else was wrong after they finally put it in so it was two weeks before it was finally done. But despite the issues, they were very nice.

I've been trying to get the icemaker in my fridge fixed since October. AHS then sent out another company for a second opinion and the young guy who came out was really friendly. There was no animosity. Then, all of a sudden, I called in and the original company indicated that that company won't be able to do the job because they had a bad attitude. I thought, “What?” I thought I’d file a complaint with AHS verbally about that. It was ridiculous. For two months I haven't called back. I wanted to wait to see if my icemaker was working but it was still not. Only a little bit of ice comes in. I'm like, “Do I want to wait 30 minutes or 40 minutes to get through?” I'm retired, but it’s a waste of my time. So, I’m thinking about looking for another company.

My biggest problem with it now is that they have no way on the website that I can do a recall. You can file a claim there, but not a re-claim. I used to be able to call and just get through within five minutes but now I'm waiting 30 minutes just to get through. And that’s every call that I make to them to file a claim. It used to be quick, easy, and it would beat time for me to go to Yellow Pages and find somebody. Before, I've recommended AHS to people because they were very convenient. I've been working with them for 22 years now. However, they’ve continued to change. I wouldn’t recommend them at all right now.

Before, it was a quick service and it saved me time. They brokered with somebody else to come out and get the call to do the job. That was great. They took all the work off of me. But now, it's 40 minutes to get through. Are they trying to make everybody go to the website now? Is that a new procedure? It’s gotten to a point where there are people like me, who don't use computers as much and we're like in a box. Also, I don't mind things going up but they've sent contractors who act like I'm supposed to do them a service. I’m saying, “Wait, wait, wait. Hold it. You’re coming out to fix this. You’re not coming out to start getting on me for something that’s mechanical.” “Well, you needed this.” I said, “You’re ridiculous.”

The AC guy told me that it was a plumbing issue and then the plumbing guy said it had to do with the AC. Meanwhile, it caused a leak in my home and I had to hire an independent person to figure it out. I have submitted claims both online and via phone. But the reason we tried to do it online was that it has been almost impossible by phone because they have been really busy. Their contractors, in general, were not as knowledgeable as I would like them to be. Maybe in their mind, they fixed the problem but they didn't.

My dishwasher had an error code. I called American Home Shield and the rep was professional. She got the right person to come and look at the dishwasher. She met my needs. The contractor contacted within three days but the problem was, I was out of town. I don’t think it’s fair to punish them. It was about two weeks when they got there, but that was my fault, not theirs. When the contractor came, he told me what he was going to do. He went through the error code, which is a Bosch dishwasher. I looked at the air code and it was a drain leak. He told me that he was going to order the parts and it’s got to be pulled out and turned upside down.

And then, when the parts came in and again, I was gone away. I had to deal with some family illnesses. When they came back, they pulled the dishwasher unto the back of the shop which was the better thing to do. So I didn’t have that mess in my house. After the repair, everything has been perfect. It was a great experience. It relieved the pressure of me having a $100 bill. I knew I had to pay my visit and they took care of it so I’ve been very pleased. American Home Shield saved me from finding someone that works on a special type of home appliance. It also saved me from worrying about how much it is going to cost, if they are going to come or if they are going to really do what they say they’re going to do. I feel like with their backing, that makes it all happen very nicely. They’re not trying to rip you off.

I’ll just keep on being with American Home Shield and I would tell others to definitely do it. If something breaks down, it’s a one call and you always get the correct person out to fix it. And they’re very cordial. I don’t feel like they’re coming out tell me something’s broken when it’s really not broken. I feel like they’re fixing it like it should be fixed.

My microwave oven’s door handle got trimmed off and we had an American Home Shield contractor come out to look at it. I told them that when you pull the handle, the whole handle was coming out. There was a crack in the door. But they said it was just the trims and it was only cosmetics. Within a month, we found out that the trim was actually the structure that was holding the handle on. We had to call again and I explained the problem with AHS. They said that they can send the same technician back out. But I don’t want the same guy and would have liked to have a different contractor to come out and look at it and do the evaluation.

I paid another $75 for somebody to come out once it was totally ripped off because it wasn’t going to hold as we open or close it. Then he ordered the door and it took a week and a half to get it. And he said we could just grab the door by the bottom and pull it off and push it to close and it would work fine until the new door comes in. He treated us like we were idiots. I have an elderly mother and children so we didn’t use the microwave. When they got us a new door, they brought it in and it took them five minutes to install it but then, they left the box with the broken lid sitting on the counter.

Other than that, I really like AHS. They do a wonderful job. There was a time when there was a leak in the tub upstairs. The guy who came out was completely professional. He cleaned up after himself and took the parts that were broken away with him. I asked him a couple of questions and he was more than polite to answer them. I wish AHS would cover heat pump stuff. My heat pump works fine. But the screen on it went out and I can't get another one because it’s an out of date model. So I have a pool without a heater and the only way to fix it is to buy a $5000 replacement and it wasn’t covered by insurance.

He came in when he said he was going to be here. It took him one time to fix it. He did it right so that was great. The faucets are working perfectly since the repair. We can use restrooms now. We were down to just using the master bathroom because they were leaking so much that I had to turn the water off in the sinks so taking care of this has made a big difference.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was an easy process. I just had to do it online which I did and it was done. But then I had to call back because they would only let me do one item online and the rep I talked to added a few more of the items to the claim. I’ve had them for six or seven years now. I haven’t really needed to use them as much but when I do need them, they are there for me so it’s great. I recommended a couple of my friends over to them already. I always tell my friends that if they have an older home, they have to take care of whatever it needs. Everything went well when submitting the claim, as far as I’m concerned, and it was a couple of days before we called the tech. The guy that was here and fixed the refrigerator told me to put a thermometer in the freezer and make sure it was between 0 and 10. And I had an old thermometer here out on the porch so I put it in there. It has been reading between 20 and 26, but I don’t know if it’s because it's old. The tech was supposed to come back in five days or a week and check to see if the Freon is still leaking. But everything that he’s done and American Home Shield has done, has been fine.

After the repair, the only thing I got in there was one frozen dinner and it was supposed to be frozen. But those little long popsicles in a plastic thing that we freeze for the little kids were not frozen. We had to throw the food away, but it’s no big deal. My experience with American Home Shield has never been good with anything they have ever done for me. For six years, I've been dealing with them for the air conditioning unit that was installed when the house was new in 2004. The average life of an AC is five to seven years. When I bought the house in 2007, I knew that I was halfway through the life of the AC unit. I bought the American Home Shield warranty. And for the past five years, AHS has been patching a 14-year old system. The system has obviously reached the end of its life. But they just want to fix and try to repair it. Every start of summer, the AC doesn't work. And every time it leaks, a company shows up, patches it, then charges me $1,500 for Freon. It's been five years in a row. I keep telling AHS that with the amount of money spent on repair techs who had to keep coming here plus the Freon, I could have paid for a new system.

I also had a washer that was almost 12 years old and it stopped washing one day. I called American Home Shield and they called to get a repair tech out here who diagnosed the problem. It took a week to get the repair tech out here. It then took another week to get the parts and then another week for him to show up to say that the washer needs to be replaced. So, they ordered me a new washer which took a week to get. Then they had New England Appliance Express deliver and install the washer but they didn't install it properly. There was a little rubber washer inside the hose that seals the faucet joint where it connects to the water. They got it in sideways, so water was leaking from there. It leaked all over the floor, all over the place on the second floor and in the ceiling to my kitchen on the first floor. When I called American Home Shield, they told me that it was not their problem and that I needed to talk to the people who put it in.

Another time, my water heater started leaking and a guy showed up who told me that I needed a new water heater. It turns out that they'll get the water heater but they don't pay to install it. The plumber said that I needed an expansion tank but I happen to know that I already have an expansion tank that was not leaking. They tried to make their money back on the other end on the installation. AHS does not use quality plumbing or electric companies. This has been an extreme nightmare. My experience with AHS has been terrible. When an appliance is over 10 years old, it is stupid to repair it. At 10 years, you just draw a line and replace it.

I told them that the machine was shaking and that the drum was warped and that it needs to be replaced. The individual I was talking to was going back and forth with his manager on the other line and I was like, “I pay every month, I don’t understand why I have to wait till the machine break again to have this item replaced when you know it needs to be replaced.” But finally it was resolved. Everything is fine now, however, there was a problem with the billing because they had to transfer the vendor to another person. I paid the $75 fee upfront and they were charging me $75 again so I had to call them. They said it would take about 14 business days for them to fix that problem. In the meantime, I got email and mail reminders that I was overdue and nobody likes to get overdue billing notices.

That matter is still pending and I’m not happy about that because these are the kinds of things that if they don’t fix it, soon, it’s going into collections and be a big mess. I like to keep everything clean but their billing is not fast enough to fix their own problems. It seems like I have to put in a lot of work for something that’s their problem. They need to have better internal control over cases where they transfer the vendor and the customer already paid one vendor, so they don’t bother the customers. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield recently when my fridge wasn’t working and its temperature was hot. The technician changed some little part, which might have been the thermostat. The contractor sent out by American Home Shield was awesome. He came out and he brought somebody. This is the second time that he has come out to fix my fridge. I had made a claim a few different times for my fridge, but I kept cancelling it because my fridge would get warm and then it would get cold again. I told the contractor that I couldn't have the techs come out when my fridge was working or it would just be a waste of money since they would say that it was working and they wouldn’t do anything.

The contractor explained to me that the problem was because of some wire that was getting touched so that my fridge would come back on and then it would go back off. He fixed my fridge but he said that I couldn't use it until I had thawed it out completely. So, I did that for 24 hours and my fridge has been fine ever since. Although I'm not dissatisfied at all with American Home Shield, I have a different plan with my appliances than what is offered now because I'm a realtor and I finally got all nickel-and-dime.

We have a high-efficiency furnace and it had a really strong gas odor outside. I like to talk to people so I filed a claim to American Home Shield by phone. My interaction with the rep was very good. And I’ve had good luck with most of the contractors except for the one whom we had come out for a hot water tank leak. He said it wasn’t leaking so he couldn’t do anything, but I still fill a cup up about once a week. This time, for the furnace, somebody came and he took the igniter out, cleaned it, put it back in and took care of the problem. He showed me how to do it, and it was easy. Now the furnace works like before it was fixed. It just had a bad odor outside because it wasn’t burning all the fuel up. American Home Shield's service is too expensive but it’s a lot cheaper to pay $75 than several $100 or a $1000. I recommended them to a friend and they got it. American Home Shield takes good care of you and everything’s covered. All you have to do is call.

My experience with American Home Shield has been frustrating. I had a fun conversation with another lady earlier and got cut off. Part of the problem is, when I called in for a service call to ask questions. It is usually a 30 to 45 minutes hold period. Because of that, one of my very first service call for a plumber, I did online because I was told it was easier. I have had many leaky valves, and there haven't been options online for listing multiple valves or faucets that are leaking. I did not know any better at the time so I selected faucet and whatever other plumbing issues I had.

Once the plumber came out, he said that he is only fixing one faucet, one toilet and the water heater. I had multiple faucets leaking so I had to live with leaky faucets until I have to call in another service call and get another plumber out. He had told me at that time that I needed to call AHS to add on multiple faucets and that he would not do it. So, I tried to call and I was on hold for about 45 minutes and by that time, he was done and had left.

It was not clear online that I could not select multiple of the same item. I was told later that I have to call in to do that. Nowhere on the website that it says that when I was setting up for a service call. I was trying to make the argument that it was unfair because I have to pay that service call fee twice when it all should have been fixed in one visit. I had called them multiple times and wasted so much time being on hold and trying to get a hold of a manager to explain and they can’t seem to understand what the main issue is. Their online forms are not even right. They need to fix those forms and make it clear that we need to call it as a multiple.

Also, when I talked to somebody online and complained about the whole time, they said, “Wow! We have an online chat trouper.” There has just been more than a handful of times I’ve tried to use that online chat but nobody was available. I’ve dealt with a home warranty company before and never had this kind of frustration, especially the long hold times.

Also, every time I call AHS, I'm looking at 50 minutes to be on hold. I had to put in three different claims but once they finally sent me somebody, it went pretty smooth. It took three months and it just got fixed a couple of weeks ago. But since it was fixed, the exhaust hood has been performing great.

I have not received it they keep saying they didn't take it. I was at the bank and have proof they have not refunded the $75 either we have proof. They said there was nothing they can do about the damages to my basement because of their contractors not coming out. It was their fault their contractors were no-shows both time right way. Plumbing in Stillwater Plumbing we call it in over 30 sometimes talk to 3 supervisor got no service set for 6 days with a flooded basement. Took our money, never called us or showed, we had to end up paying out of our pockets to get someone to come here.

We cancelled our service over a week ago and they still say we didn't cancel. This is the craziest thing I've ever heard of and they are responsible for the damages. It's because of their company this happened their no show contractors. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and then they send me a message saying they're willing to refund my money and talk to me about it. That is a joke. They had nothing important to say they just want me to take everything off of this website and I'm not going to do it. Buyers beware do not take service from American Home Shield. Six months of dealing with AHS for a simple plumbing issue has been a nightmare. Wait times of well over an hour, plumbers who don't show, and complete avoidance of any responsibility by AHS. First plumber came, said they needed a part and would be in touch. They report to AHS that the issue was fixed and promptly disappeared. After some Twitter magic, AHS finally called out a second plumber (months later). He called and scheduled an appointment, didn't show. We called and said he missed, he told us we made it up but would come out the next day. Didn't show. Rinse and repeat. Final time I call, he calls me a liar and starts yelling that he doesn't have to put up with this. Of course, he reported that the problem was fixed to AHS, so I'm sure he got paid.

It now occurs to AHS to refund our trade call deductible, and we think we're on target. AHS never apologized for the second plumber, but I'm sure their lawyers are on top of those things. Third time wasn't a charm, as he told us there was a manufacturer's defect or just that the toilet was old. Fine. He also told us he wouldn't come out to our neighborhood again because parking is "bad", even though we have a garage he could use. That should have been the sign, as AHS claims it was because of "force" on the tank or misuse. Plumber confirmed to me on the phone he said it was because of a defect but that AHS doesn't have an option that won't place that blame on us.

After all the trouble we've had and being able to get the BARE minimum of help, it has become clear that AHS will take no responsibility and rejects claims out of hand - if this were a regulated industry, it would be the equivalent of fraud. BBB able to actually get someone to respond but no responsibility or assistance was offered AHS. Twitter was more useful than their responses to BBB, but they picked the plumber that gave the answer they wanted (after telling us the toilet was fine because the first two plumbers said it was fixed... Even if they both disappeared). Find a different warranty company... Or just save the monthly cost and pay a good contractor directly.

My experience with American Home Shield has been awesome. When I submit a claim, they gave me follow-ups. The last claim I filed was for a heater which wasn’t working. I usually submit my claim over the internet. They’re quick to respond anytime I contact them. They gave me the contact information of who was contacting me or who the vendor was. They’re always professional. But it’s their selected vendors that I had an issue with. I submitted the claim January 22st and the first contractor came on the 23rd. It was in the cold of winter at 12 and 9-degree weather in St. Louis. The first contractor checked on the heater and did whatever they had to do. They said they had to replace it. I had to get them to stay there, so nobody had to leave work. I asked them the turnaround and they submitted whatever the work order into American Home Shield.

They had 24 hours to do it. That whole week, they had to submit anything to American Home Shield. I contacted AHS four different times through that week. And while I was on the phone with them, they were contacting the vendor. But the vendor wasn’t responding to them. They sent an email to whoever held the contract and still didn’t get a response. The contractor didn’t get anything to tell American Home Shield. The following Monday, after the weekend, it was our coldest. Single digit, no heat because I had to turn the heater off because of the gas. Then, I contacted American Home Shield and they put me on the phone again, tried to contact the contractor again but they still haven’t received any paperwork from the vendor.

At that time, I was speaking with the lady from American Home Shield, and I said, “Why do we have to use this vendor? They’re not responding to you. They don’t respond to me because I was leaving them messages.” They didn’t work over the weekend and it was ridiculous. The first company called Blast Mechanical was horrible. When I first contacted American Home Shield back Wednesday, they haven’t received the paperwork. Every time I call AHS, I don’t get the same person so I always have somebody different that I had to go through and tell them. The lady sent the email to the vendor on a Friday. She said the vendor has to respond once she sent whatever email she was sending.

Initially, AHS has to give the vendor allotted time and I allowed it which I thought they would have everything to AHS before Friday since they were here Tuesday but that didn’t happen. By the time Monday came, the next person I talked to said it was unacceptable and that they will send my service to another vendor. It was my first experience with a vendor that was incompetent and they were such a small vendor. They have maybe four people and a person that works in the office to answer the phone. Outside of that, I call all day and they don’t answer. I leave messages, they don’t call back. It’s not a good look, as far as American Home Shield using them as a vendor.

So, AHS ended up assigning it to another vendor. It was the vendor that they normally used in the past that I was accustomed to. The second vendor came out and didn’t need to replace anything. By the time they left, there was heat in the house. AHS should pay full attention to what their customers are paying them for their contracts or saying about a type of vendors. If they were having a negative experience with these vendors, it means a lot to know that they understand. It’s like when we get sorry employees in a government I’m working. We got people that they own their job and when we recognize sorry employees, either we get them up to speed or we get rid of them. I've recommended AHS to many people and I still recommend them but AHS needs to be more selective and a bit more stringent with their vendors.

So, I got a second opinion and the person said yes to the necessary changes although not all as the breaker was from 1970, and nobody sells it. It was very hard to turn on and off, and people said it was a secondary problem.

I told the person that the breaker needs to be changed as it was dangerous. So the next day, I called and they said that insurance will be paid and I need to call to make an appointment. When I made the appointment, they said that the insurance won’t be paid but I told them that somebody needs to check. I called a thousand times and every time, they say they will check. After a few weeks, I said no. I always liked AHS and all that time was good. I recommended lots of people to them, but they didn't listen. I don’t want to renew my policy with AHS.

There were some issues with my sink and I submitted my claim with American Home Shield. One issue was for a constant drip from the sink, which I was very unhappy with. And then, the garbage disposer was also not working. I submitted the claim through their automated system, and it didn't give me many options and I was waiting on hold for 40 minutes for an actual person to describe the issue to them. So, the best option, if I wanted something quick, was to pick up the options that they had available. It was awful. They give a series to choose from and I wasn't too sure of what to pick but I still had to pay for it regardless.

The guy who came for the drip issue was horrible. He came for a leaking faucet but the issue was something else. He could only fix for the leaky faucet which was what was on the list. I asked if he could call AHS and let them know that it was not the problem, but he said he could just come back or I'll get somebody else. I had to fight him just to look at it to tell me what the problem was. So when I'd call back, I could negotiate because it would be another $50 to $100. He looked at it and moved some things around and said it was something that was not screwed in tightly, and he could do it for me. He screwed it in tightly but after he left, it still leaked really bad. So, someone else came and fixed the problem. It was actually a clog in the sink.

The person who came for the garbage disposer was a little bit nicer. And underneath the disposer, he used one of his little tools and was able to take the small towel that got lodged in the pipe. There was another leak in the handle of the sink knob, and he advised me that I would probably get a brand new one if I call the number from the brand for the knobs. I was able to call and get that myself.

I strongly discourage going with American Home Shield. I've been on hold with them for an hour before. Once you get on the phone with them, you better know exactly what you need. The people on the phone are not helpful and not friendly. My husband picked AHS and we've been with them for so long but I definitely would not have gone with them if I had a choice.

My water heater was leaking. I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor. The contractor came but the heater started leaking again. I contacted the contractor and he said that I had to call AHS again. But I couldn't call AHS directly. I had to be on hold for freaking ever. I was calling AHS in the car because I happened to be traveling. I was on hold for 45 minutes waiting for them when something fell on my phone and hung up. So I was on hold for another hour when they answered. I was one day away from that water heater warranty being voided. If I waited one more day, it still would have been covered but it would not have been covered if I had waited longer than that.

AHS sent another guy out from the same contractor. He fixed the water heater. He said there was just a little piece of something stuck and that he got it out. He said that it is not going to leak anymore. But within two days, it was leaking again. It was leaking bigger than it was ever leaking the first time. So I called AHS again knowing I was going to have to be on hold forever. They sent the contractor out again who sent somebody else. He worked on the heater as well but he said that he could not fix it because it stated in my contract that AHS does not fix things if the water pressure is above a certain point. I looked at my contract and it does say that if the water pressure is over 100 psi, AHS won't repair anything, which is ridiculous.

The guy offered $2,000 to have the water pressure thing fixed. I am a single mom and I did not have $2,000. So in the meantime, water was pouring out of my water heater. Thank God that the leak was going outside and not inside my house. I work for the school district and the maintenance man that works at school said that I needed to call the city because the city can adjust my water pressure. I contacted the city and the city plumber came out. But he said that he could not just lower my water pressure. He said that my water pressure is the same as my neighbor’s water pressure and that most people do not want their water pressure reduced.

AHS sent a letter which said that because my contract says that they are not going to fix if the water pressure is above 100 psi, they are not fixing my claim. They just looked for things not to cover. Two years ago, I had a freeze and my outdoor water faucet froze. It broke and it was leaking, so I called AHS. I paid $75 and the plumber came. The plumber said that AHS is not going to pay for it because the faucet is not coming out of my house. It was right next to my house and it came out of the ground but it was not coming out of the bricks. So I lost $75 there. Also, I emailed them twice but they never responded. Now, I tell my friends not to get AHS. They had fixed some things for me. However, even when things were fixed, I still had to pay an astronomical amount to the person who did the fix. AHS did not make that clear when I purchased this plan.

Then, I noticed that it was on a continuous basis so I contacted American Home Shield over the phone to describe what was going on. The rep I spoke with was upfront and asked me questions like what was going on and how long the process has been going when I first noticed it. They also asked my availability as far as time frame for people to come out.

Then, they set up an appointment and provided me with different options whether I wanted the AM or midday sessions. They were very informative of details and what would happen in the process. Also, they told me that they would bill me later. Then they went on to tell me when the person would come out and what agency would be coming out to take a look at my heat pump. They advised me that the technician would give me a call and he did. AHS customer service was great and gave excellent service. Everything they told me happened.

AHS sent out an amazing contractor, too. He was very personable, friendly and very on point. I had dogs but he was okay with that and just walked me through the process, told me what was going on. He did what he was supposed to do and did an excellent job. I'm not really liking the system recently, but I'd still suggest my friends to try American Home Shield out.

A1 Plumbing was good and the plumbing guy who came in was super friendly and helpful. He also explained things to me and took the time. And when I wasn’t sure one thing was working right, I contacted American Home Shield. I requested the same guy and he came out and he showed me that the sun pump problem was the way it was built. The sun well was like a shallow grave and was a three-inch hole, and the sun pump needed to be deeper in the water. He explained it all to me and that wasn’t something that was covered under the warranty because it's pre-existing. But I was able to move on that as the contractors came and got my sun pump working, and now my basement is not flooded. That's cheers to the plumber.

I'm still dealing with an appliance problem. The first guy that came out was very arrogant and it was totally confusing after that because he told me that he knew what the problem was although he didn’t even run the washer. After three weeks, the company called me and said that they had the parts for my dryer. I asked about the washer that also needed something and I was told that it was referred to an electrician and that there was a problem with the socket. I wondered how the contractor knew it when he never even tried to plug it in. He looked at the socket and he said something but he indicated that he was ordering parts and they would be fixed. Then I had to go back to American Home Shield after that and then I called the appliance people.

A nice kid came out the next time and fixed everything. He said it was all fixed but when I ran the washer, it still made this horrendous noise so I tried to call American Home Shield. But it's hard to reach somebody on the phone sometimes and other times, it says there's an hour and a half wait. I didn’t want to pay for another service call when the original problem hasn’t been fixed but I found a way online. And then the appliance people called me. The first guy came back out but he was a lot nicer, friendlier and cordial this time.

He said that the original problem that he diagnosed was the cause of another problem and said that I might need a total replacement. He was going to order parts but maybe I should talk to American Home Shield. I didn’t know what he meant and I haven’t talked to American Home Shield because I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to tell them. They got the parts for the dryer and the washer for the first diagnosis and I’m now waiting to hear from them for the parts of the most recent diagnosis to come in.

I've been dealing with American Home Shield. I recently moved into this house and when we did the home inspection, a lot of stuff worked and then suddenly, when I moved in, a lot of stuff didn’t work. I had a whole bunch of electrical outlets and lights that weren’t working although it had worked on our walk-through a month before. They had an electrician come out and he looked around and said that these are all pre-existing. Someone reached out to me from American Home Shield and tried to talk about some of the specifics and I asked, "What pre-existing? How do they know it's pre-existing?" They asked if I did the inspection and I said yes but it wasn’t noted that these were problems.

One problem was noted for a mis-wired garbage disposal. I wasn’t aware that all these problems happened but they offered me a chance to find out piece by piece what I could get done and what they would and what they wouldn't. After a brief discussion, I knew that I wanted to have some electrical work done in the house so I said I needed to have the box locked out. The box was illegally rigged up, which I knew from the home inspection, and somebody had wired multiple things to the same circuit.

I was satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield but I would love to call at any point and be dealt with because I'm not super literate on the computer. It was confusing to me and I gradually learned the website. I wish they had an option to leave a message and calling back like some other people I deal with. I would have appreciated that because then I'll know that they'll just call me back, other than keep calling.

The sink was stopped up in the kitchen. We tried to correct that for about a week ourselves, and then we filed the claim. I called American Home Shield and the representative took the information. They told me who would be contacting us and gave me their phone number. My husband and I are divorced and I pay the Home Shield and the copays. The contractor went there and my husband said it went fine. I pay my monthly amount and my service when they go out and they fixed it. The sink is running fine.

I've recommended AHS to several people. My friends are talking about having different problems. One of them had to replace the central heating air unit, one of them had to replace another appliance, and one of them had plumbing problems. However, I don’t like that “hit this button for this” when I want to talk to a real person. And most of the time, I don’t have my information on me when I call and I want a real person to pick up. I'll tell them my address and whatever they want to know. I want to deal with a person, less of a phone.

When I have a claim for American Home Shield, I usually submit online and everything goes good. I’m persistent so I don’t usually wait for the contractors to call me. I go in, get the information, and call whoever the contractor’s gonna be and start that process because sometimes it can get to be a little slow on their end. A contractor gets to service within a day or two and they’ll usually call me and tell me if there is something going on. A recent claim I had was the problem with my washer. Its top part where one puts the soap came loose and was rattling really bad when it was going into the spin mode. Now, it's absolutely no problem.

I had a heating claim and there was one company that American Home Shield kept sending back out. I ended up with a $345 electric bill for two months in a row. Then, they sent the same company back for the third time to fix the heating unit. And when my heater started, my smoke detector went off. Apparently, the service guy wired it wrong. It wasn't nice. So I called and complained and AHS wouldn't send a different technician out. I don't want that company to come back out here. Their customer service plainly sucked. They don't know anything and can't help. I sent an e-mail to the owner of the company and someone called me. She was really good and called somebody. A guy then came out and he went through the thing with a fine-toothed comb. And he told me the back wiring was wired wrong. And ever since, I have had no problem with the heater.

I had another claim for my washing machine where AHS sent out people four times as well. The first time the guy came out, he ordered parts for the washing machine such as a motherboard. However, I had to reschedule the appointment for him to put them in. He was a nice guy but he was a terrible repair person. All he did was worry about his other appointment. He gave his phone number and said, "If it doesn’t spin, I can’t wait. I got to go because this guy is texting me. Call me and let me know if it spins or not.” So, I did. But I didn’t hear another word from him. Another guy came out, and he was really very thorough. I like him. He got a bit confused so he made a few phone calls. But he came to find out the issue was the water coming in from the back of the machine through this little thing.

AHS doesn't do Saturdays in my area. I was at home all Saturday afternoon waiting for the service guy and I called the customer service to find out what was going on. All the girls kept telling me, "They should be there shortly. They’ll have to call you.” And finally, the fourth girl I spoke to that day said they don’t work on Saturday at all. Their customer service needs to do better. They need to communicate with each other on what's going on. I was not happy. I’m paying AHS every single month on time. As a matter of fact, I let them take straight out of my check. I don’t need to be stressed like this.

We really appreciate how American Home Shield had handled our claims in the past. My experience with them and the online application has been very good, and the response time was pretty good as well. But the online system won't handle exceptions and sometimes I have trouble when I try to check or change a claim. Then I would have to call in and sit in line for an hour before a real live person comes up. They really need more techs handling calls coming in.

Also, a couple of years ago, we had some plumbing issues and the person they sent to fix the drain in our sink did more to avoid the work than to do the work. In fact, he accused me of putting chemicals down the drain. I did, but I was just trying to clean it myself. He told me he couldn't go in there if there are chemicals. He was a plumber and yet he couldn't fix it. I ended up calling a commercially-trained guy who came in and fixed it. Then a couple of times later, I had a stuck drain and they kept wanting to send the same plumber and his company out. I told AHS that I didn't want them and I told them the firm that I wanted, which had always done a great job for me. AHS said they couldn't guarantee that they could send that one and I would have to take whoever they send. I didn’t agree with that.

If I don’t want one of their contractors in my house because I don't trust him then they should be able to give me a new contractor. They've responded to my feedback and American Home Shield honored my request and sent a different plumber out. All was taken care of. By and large, my experiences with AHS have been very positive and I'm very pleased with the warranty.

Having a warranty on our property is really important. It was really smart of our real estate agent to get American Home Shield for us. Their website is pretty good, straightforward and easy to navigate. AHS normally sends out technicians in less than a week after we filed the claim. One thing that would be really useful for AHS to do is for customers like us to be able to plug in who we've already used before so we could use them again because we want to be always working with the same service provider if possible.

I once tried to make a request on the phone and it was a nightmare. I was having an emergency and I had to wait for an hour on the phone. I was waiting and waiting, and finally, I just went online. But the technician who came was great and everything was fixed. We've only had great service people. And we will be ongoing customers with AHS because this is the most brilliant service. We had lots of little things go wrong and had to repair the stove, fridge, sink, and the toilet. I also submitted a claim with AHS through their automated system for a problem with my heater and then I followed up when I called back. The contractor that they sent out apparently found some issues with my heater, where it wasn't heating, and they had to replace the motor, the compressor unit, and the fan blades. They got the heater fixed and it is working better now. I also spoke to the reps because I had questions regarding a letter I got from AHS saying that they're not going to be continuing our contract after this year. I've been a customer of AHS in good standing for almost 10 years now. But the rep could not give me the best in details and, as a loyal customer, I felt a little shafted by not getting continued, especially when payment was always received on time and I've never had any issues.

AHS has my wife's name wrong and they have had it that way since the beginning. The wait times are too long for me to correct this. Also, only certain departments can correct this and they have more limited working hours. There is an extra fee on my account that I need to call about. I paid my service fee already. This fee appears to be for the follow-up visit which specifically said "no charge" and which AHS did not cover. I paid out of pocket even though the problem only existed after the first visit. I am going to fight this additional charge since I already paid out of pocket.

I was told that it would take four days for them to send a contractor out because it was Christmas time and the techs wanted to do it after the holidays. But I couldn't have all the flooding in the house for that long so I had no choice but to call somebody else.

They investigated but when I called again, they still wouldn't respond. I’m a good customer and I pay my bills. I have been doing this for 20 years already and they put me down. My air conditioning is 30 years old. About six years ago, American Home Shield came out and I applied to winterizing my house. They replaced all the working parts in that air conditioning and that's why it was working so good. However, it started leaking Freon and froze a solid sheet of ice on the outside. I got my water bill shortly after that and it was $10 more than I normally had. But then I got the bill this month and it was down $10. So the first guy used the $10 worth of water just to get the ice off outside of that air conditioner.

He was working at a house across the street from me and he saw my air conditioner. He came over and said that I need to have something done to the air conditioner right now since it's running my electricity bill way up. I told him that I have AHS to do it. But he said that I needed to have something done right at that time and don't have to wait a day. So I went ahead and let him do it. He put in two pound of Freon which was $50 a pound. However, he didn’t have a tap to put on to stop that leak and so I had to call someone else to come out because after that was done, it froze over again but not quite as heavily.

I called AHS and explained to them what had gone on and so they called me a technician and he was very thorough. He called me that he was coming and he was on time. He replaced the stem and the tap on and fixed that. Right now, the air conditioner is working fine. He did his work in a timely manner and I was really pleased with him. I'd like to keep him if I can. So far, I have had good service with AHS. They have found me good people and I would recommend them to others.

The online option to place my service call as well as being able to pay online were good. The contractors were good about setting up a time or letting us know when they were available. We had to wait a few days or so, then we found out that they had to find a part so we also had to wait for that. The tech was good about telling us what was wrong with it and what part it was. He told us that it was something that happens over time with those types of dryers. He even gave us a few pointers about cleaning the dryer vent. They were very good at communicating when the part was ready, when this would be done, and when they would be able to come back. It was a quick fix and the dryer is working now.

American Home Shield has been good as far as setting claims up. We’ve had another home warranty before and they were good too. We were just shopping for prices. Then with the recent one, I had to call back regarding my microwave. The part that they tried to fix could not be fixed so they had to replace the whole unit. They gave me the depreciated value of the unit and told me to go out and buy the unit with the cash they are attempting to give. I sent the receipt and email, and I have not heard back from them yet. They said it would take seven to 10 days so I'm just waiting.

Having an AHS warranty would be the best investment and purchase you could make for your home, especially if your home is over 10 years old. If you live there, everything is 10 years old and it's going to start to deteriorate. My brother, who turned me on to home warranties since he's in the industry, also told me told me that it's the best gift to somebody. It was midnight so I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield. But it was bad because the first available appointment was the next week. After the next day I called them and they canceled that one and they sent me Right Refrigerated.

The contractor from Right Refrigerated was so polite, nice, and professional. A week after I was at home sleeping and it was eight o'clock, I got my coffee and I saw somebody ringing the bell. I thought that American Home Shield must have sent another company to look at our refrigerator for second opinion. That guy from United Air Temp was so rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. I asked him to take his shoes off because it was raining outside and he said, "I'm already in your house." After that he told me to turn off the refrigerator for 24 hours and then turn it on. He left and I'm cleaning after him because of all these spots from his shoes. He came back again not even in five minutes and said, "Oh, I'm going to put something there. Just turn it off for 48 hours and turn it on." I said, "What? I'm going to go for 48 hours without refrigerator?" He told me to go buy a cooler.

I got so insulted and I said that I'm paying for my insurance $55 something a month for 14 years. Then he told me, "Oh, you do that?" I called American Home Shield after that and I said that I'm not happy with what the contractors did. They said, "They're not supposed to even to be in your home. We canceled that appointment." United Air Temp didn’t give me any receipt. The guy was done and they said, "Ignore it." I said, "How would AHS know I did it?" I never, ever want to have anything to deal with that company. We called them back after 14 business days and they said if we had not received the parts, they didn't know what to do. My tenant didn’t have water for a whole month and they were very upset about it.

AHS started to figure out what was going on with the parts and we were told the parts were sent to the wrong address. I asked them if we could have somebody go there and replace the faucet as soon as possible, but they said they could not do that. I asked them if they could find another contractor and fix the faucet fast because the tenant has had no water for almost a month and we’ve been very patient. We called AHS so many times but they said that they could not do anything about it and that their hands were tied. They said they had to open a case to investigate what was going on but I told them that there was no need for that. I have not gotten the thing fixed. Then they said they had to re-order the parts but it would take a week or so and they could not guarantee. I asked them to rush the order and they said no. So I told them to forget about it. I cancelled the order and then called somebody else to repair the faucet.

The next day, I found out that on the website that they put down that the job was completed. So I filed a dispute with the credit card company but they said that it was a valid charge because AHS gave the service on November 24th. But that was an assessment, not a repair. I asked for proof that AHS fixed the work. If the contractor completed the job, there should have been my tenant’s signature. Yet I have my tenant’s payments for another handyman and I have proof that I asked somebody else to fix it. In the dispute, AHS also said that I should call customer service to resolve the issue instead of withdrawing the payment. But I said that I had talked to them so many times and each time we called AHS, it took literally an hour, or thirty minutes minimum, to reach somebody. We had also asked to talk to the manager but they said that the manager was not available. They said they would have the manager call back but no manager has called back.

I have four rental properties and because I was so upset about their service, I cancelled all the policies right away except one. I could not cancel that one because I had already placed a call for repair. On the second case, the contractor had repaired the plumbing problem but it was leaking again. The contractor is going back to fix it. They said that they would respond in 24 hours and we’re waiting for them to schedule the appointment. Nonetheless, my experience with American Home Shield was not so good.

The time when American Home Shield dealt with my washing machine issue was pretty good. However, they had to send technicians about five different times, so I went about four months without a washing machine and had to go to a laundromat. But AHS finally replaced it. Before that though, they would not cover my heating air conditioning unit. So, I didn't have heat in my house for over four months. I just ended up paying out of pocket which was ridiculous. I am not satisfied because AHS always try to find a way not to cover. Do not go to American Home Shield. Go find another one because, when it comes to AC and heating, AHS does not stand by. As far as my other appliances though, the contractors that they have sent have been fine.

I thought I had a leak in the ceiling and that went on for a day before I submitted my claim to American Home Shield. I called them up and they sent somebody out. Their process was very easy and their reps were very nice. Then I spoke with the contractor on the phone and he was fantastic. But it turned out that it was not a leak and I was annoyed. He said there was no plumbing there, just condensation or humidity. I still had to pay him for his time, though, because he came out and made an assessment. Other than that, he was very nice and I would use him again in a heartbeat. All in all, I was pleased that I had American Home Shield, so I didn’t have any issue paying the money to bring their contractor out. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind and security, and I would recommend them. My parents have the AHS warranty, too and that’s how I have it.

Our furnace was acting up and we weren't sure what was going on. It was working but it was making a horrible noise. We were concerned that there was going to be a problem and it kept getting worse. When I called American Home Shield, we were assigned a heating company. They were going to come out, but then, we had a problem because this was around the holidays. We talked three weeks ahead of time to fix it because we weren't going to be home. We closed it out and I was told to call back in. Then I called in since I knew we were going to be home for the next two weeks and the lady said that she'll have my appointment set up right then and there.

When I authorized the payment, I thought that it would be automatic on the day that I called it in. They said that it goes when they do the work. I messed up, so I had to go, pay it then call back in. That was all taken care of and everybody was really nice about it. I learned more about how they worked. The vendor, Rose Heating, called us and said they were on their way. We received a slot time and a courtesy call before they went out saying, "He has one call before you." Then, the tech called right when he was coming over saying, "I'm just leaving my appointment. I should be there." He also gave me an estimate of time.

The tech was professional. Our furnace was in the attic, which wasn't the best location. We're in a fairly new house for us and he walked us through where it was. He tested it, gave us all the results and told us what was going on as well as what the problem was. He fixed the problem then left without leaving a mess. He not only fixed the problem, but he gave us a little education. My husband and I learned a lot about our furnace, like what is normal and what isn't normal. He went above and beyond of what I expected. We've used American Home Shield's service before with other issues in the house. We've also had a plumber and the electrician come out.

We've been with American Home Shield on this house since 2014. We've had other home warranties in the past. We had a rental property. We had one on that as well as our other house. So far, we were satisfied and if I was going to buy another house or look at providing another coverage on any of the properties, I would definitely give AHS the first crack.

Our most recent claim related to heating was an ongoing issue and it was a long process that should have never even taken place. I’m actually thinking about dropping American Home Shield because that was a very frustrating experience. The air-conditioning unit went out and it should have been replaced. I was waiting for American Home Shield but I had to almost jump through hoops to finally authorize them to replace it. I had to get one of their contractors to come out and say it was broken. It was an old unit but they kept trying to slap on parts for a unit that was too old and it finally went out because the wires were burning up and causing a safety issue. That was when they were finally able to replace it but it was a shame that it took so long for them to do that and it took so long for them to make a decision. I had to stay in a hotel for two weeks until they were able to get it taken care of.

The unit is excellent now and it is probably the best it has been in years. The contractor was very understanding and he did what he had to do and it was done professionally. It was just the process of getting someone to declare it unfixable so they can replace it. American Home Shield could have reached out a little more. It is a shame that I almost had to go out and follow-up with them every step of the process. If I don’t call early in the morning, then I’m going to be on the phone for 30 minutes just to talk to an operator or an actual person. From beginning to the end of the claim, they should have replaced it then instead of sending out multiple contractors who don’t work on that unit anymore. It was broken and they should have stopped trying to put parts on something that was broken.

The prices are reasonable and I still would recommend them. I had other issues that went out and they weren’t too bad. But they definitely need some room for improvement in terms of their customer service. It felt like I was doing more of the legwork to get the ball rolling than they are. I have had issues with other appliances but they’ve always come through so it is not a constant. But if something else goes wrong and I have to go through this whole process again, then I will, for sure, leave American Home Shield and go with another company.

They've got to order them and I work for a living so a lengthier repair is a hassle. But when I had some ice developing outside of my air conditioning unit when it was left on and the heat wasn’t working, I went online to submit the claim and it was good. I have American Home Shield so I don't have to worry about that stuff. I got a call in a reasonable amount of time and the person was nice. The guy who came out was even nicer. My claim with American Home Shield for a plumbing issue was totally useless. They came up with some reason to get out of it, so I paid them $75 for nothing. I had a positive experience with the dryer though. I submitted the claim online and connected the payment to my credit card and everything happened, and the response time was great. Everything was automated and smooth. AHS sent a guy from AmTech who was young and inexperienced. He did not know what he was doing. The dryer was still making a different noise when he tried to convince me that it was all right. After two unsuccessful tries, one guy came out from the same contracted company and he solved the problem in five minutes. He knew exactly what the young guy did wrong. Since then, everything has been working okay. But, still, the plumbing issue was a fiasco. For $50 a month, I could save up for and get a better experience.

But I wish American Home Shield had a cheaper price. I also had a situation in my Jacuzzi where the motor on the Jacuzzi went out and the plumber said that they could come out and fix it, but I had to remove the panel on the front myself. Normally, we call American Home Shield and tell them that we have a problem. They then contact a contractor and then the contractor would call us and they tell us when they would be coming. Our lights and things kept going out and we couldn’t get it to work. This is an old house and it was supposed to have been rewired when we moved in. They did not put that on the contract and it wasn't until much later that we found out that they put in a new fuse box but did not rewire anything. Some of the contractors they've sent have been a little bit off. But the contractor they sent this time was fantastic. He knew everything and explained it. He did the work quickly and in a timely manner. Once he was done, it was never a problem again. I have recommended that people go to American Home Shield when they buy homes.

Nonetheless, AHS resolved everything satisfactorily. Also, I was solicited by another home warranty folks and they were a little bit cheaper and at a $50 call fee. We noticed that the spark of one of the burners on our gas range wouldn't work. We called AHS for it and they told me that I have two options. One, we go ahead and get someone out to fix it and then they’ll bill me for the $75 copay on the service and the rest of it, and I haven't heard back from them. I thought they were going to call me and set up a date or do a charge on the credit card or what. But I got their phone number and I told them I was going to call them and go through the steps and everything.

Whenever I submit a claim, I like to talk to a live person. Their lines are quite busy sometimes, but I got through and it worked out just fine. The rep was able to answer some of the questions I had, like if I have to pay the contractor $75. The contractor then called me and said that he was in the area. He got here the next day and he worked as soon as the schedule, which was great. What he found out was, unfortunately, I need to have the whole thing replaced. We, however, found out that you can turn on another burner and you can activate the front spark. Of course, that burner is the one we used the most. It's at the front of the range and so we decided it’d just be best to get it all fixed because when another one goes out we'll maybe add another service call.

When I talked to AHS again, I asked them how they want the payment to be because we have a credit card account which is being charged monthly. I told them that we could just plus that on there or send them a bill. With all the protection plans, you're fortunate if you pay the yearly fee and nothing happens because in this case we were charged $400. But when you figure the labor and the cost of the parts, we're going to be more than breakeven.

We had another issue with the garage door opener and we paid the $75 upfront and they sent a gentleman out. However, he had to go back and get a part so we will be at approximately $150. But with the service and parts, I'm sure it will cost more than that. But we had really good service from AHS. My son and daughter-in-law also have them and they also had a good experience with them.

I had a furnace problem recently which I submitted a claim for with American Home Shield. That process went smooth but the person they selected at first said that they weren’t able to do it and so AHS found someone else for me. The contractor then had to wait on the part and the furnace was done in two days. But since my heat went out, I had to buy some space heaters and now I’m still waiting on them to reimburse me for buying those. I haven’t heard anything from them yet but I know it takes about 6 weeks. Other than that, everything went really good.

My only problem is it takes so long for customer service to answer the phone which may be 45 minutes to two hours every time. And then after waiting so long, the service disconnects then I have to call back and start all over again. When I asked one time why it takes so long, they said because they took over a new company and that their service was bad because of that. The next time I called, they said the service was bad because of the weather. I’ve had them since 2000 and I used to have bad experiences with contractors as well, but now AHS hires new people and it’s going good with them.

I always refer people to AHS but a couple of them had a bad experience. They told me about AHS having poor customer service. One lady told me the other day that her lights were out in one part of her house but the electrician AHS sent out couldn’t find anything wrong. So, she hired another outside electrician that came in and said the problem was small and then fixed it. And so she cancelled her contract with AHS. I told her she should’ve called a supervisor instead and she said she did but the supervisor didn’t call her back until a week later. I had an experience like that when I got my dishwasher replaced a couple of months ago. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that one would call me back, but they never did. So I called back and talked to one of the workers who wanted to work for me and then she fixed the problem for me.

I recommend AHS and let people know that every time customers have a problem, AHS always solves the problem for them. They're the best company around. Even in the store, someone might say that they need a water heater so I’d tell them to try AHS because if the contractor can’t fix the water heater problem, AHS is going to replace the unit. I also tell my kids and anyone who buys a house to get warranty from AHS. My son’s got three houses and I tell him to make sure he gets a warranty for the rental property, and that’s what they did.

We got a replacement dryer from American Home Shield. The agreement was eventually honored but there were a lot of hiccups along the way. First, I can't reach anybody at American Home Shield. I waited one day on the phone for two hours and 15 minutes. The other days, I only waited 45 minutes to an hour. And each time we called American Home Shield, the wait was incredibly long. I spent half of the week on the phone waiting. Second, the first delivery person who came in should have come in and have been prepared. He was supposed to install the new dryer but he said he wasn’t going to move out the old one. He also incorrectly stated to his boss that there was a gas line blocking it, although there was no gas line. It was a water meter line and it wasn't blocking the dryer because whoever installed the prior dryer got around that line without a problem. They didn't build the house around a water meter line. It was very frustrating.

We eventually got someone else -- a different driver, same company. But we had a lot of delays and problems. American Home Shield was trying to work with us but they could not schedule it and the contractor could not get through to them. They did not know what the situation was and they couldn't provide enough information so, overall, it was an extremely difficult process and it was not seamless.

It's been two and a half months since we started the process. I spoke with a total of about four different people at AHS, and of the people I spoke with, most of them were professional and were clear and understanding. The last two people we spoke with were terrific. But there was one person we spoke with a little earlier in the process who was remarkably unhelpful. And the guy who first came to deliver the dryer was the rudest and the nastiest. The company called when he was on his way and he showed up two hours later than they said he would be here. They said he was 30 minutes away but he showed up two hours later or even longer. The man shouldn't be working for that company.

American Home Shield is extremely expensive and over the past seven years that we've had it, it has been less coverage for more money. We also have had problems with the billing because the discount didn't appear. There's a disconnect between the level of service that's advertised, and a little less service that there once was one time and the level of service that exists now. Also, the company's policies had cut back on what they cover and increased the rates. They've gone within the rules but they've always found how it could be done within the rules, although they shouldn't be in that position. But the individuals are very committed and this is why we stayed with them. The individuals that we spoke with, especially most recently, were bending over backward to make us happy so that was important. I have recommended American Home Shield to my friends.

The first plumber they assigned me to never reached out to schedule an appointment. I contacted him by e-mail and phone, when I did connect with him he claimed AHS never sent him anything and asked me to forward the work order.

I never heard back from and reached out to AHS, they advised (after being on hold for 75 minutes) that I could request a vendor change, but the process would start all over. I opted to give the first guy another chance. AHS reached out to him and I heard back from him that he was booked the next to 2 days. I replied and asked if we could pencil something in for day 3. No response.

I called AHS again a few days later and this time was only hold 50 minutes. I was reassigned to a new plumber. The next day a third plumber contacted me that AHS notified him about my problem and I discussed the situation with him. He was busy, but was able to fit me in on day 3. Finally. Day 3 gets here and the plumber arrives. He quickly identified the issue and called AHS to get authorization. They denied the claim as it was something not covered. I paid the plumber to do the work because I needed the issue resolved. It’s been 60 days and in the last week I’ve gotten 2 emails from AHS that I owe them $100 for this claim.

They did nothing to help me, in fact their vendor wasn't interested in the work and I needed to go back to AHS to get this resolved. They delayed my repair and want me to pay them after I already paid the plumber. I don’t think so. As a homeowner I wouldn’t want to deal with them again. As a real estate agent I would never recommend this company to any of my clients.

I have an ongoing claim with American Home Shield. We had a technician come out and take a look at my heating system. It runs off the hot water steam so the hot water plays the part of the power heating system. I turned it off from where it's supposed to be very hot, which was not a good fix. Then I was still having the problem so the technicians came back out and they diagnosed that the water heater is not suitable for that particular heating system and it needs to be the high-efficiency water heater. American Home Shield ordered the water heater then they canceled it all of a sudden because the original heating air people were not listed as plumbers, although the gentleman told me he could do it. AHS sent out a plumber but the plumber didn't know anything. I was under the impression that they're going to get the heater installed by a plumber but he never gave the report in.

All of a sudden, we heard back and he said that there's nothing wrong with the water heater and it's just that the floor or beneath the water heater is rotting and needs to be replaced. But no plumber came out and now, I have to have another opinion with another plumber, which is going to happen tomorrow. The water heater was replaced a few years ago by American Home Shield and the plumbers that came out who did that did not put a high-efficiency water heater in. I've been having a problem with my heating every year and it's been an ongoing thing now for too long. Now, I'm left with high electricity and high gas because it's a gas water heater and it gets my water heater always very hot in order to heat the home. American Home Shield hasn’t handled the situation very well.

There was another incident that happened in December. It was the HD heating/ac system and it could have been replaced easily. The ac/heating system was not out of warranty but there was a part of the system where they replaced in the summer. They sent the part to the company and had it there for a month. I kept calling American Home Shield and they said they’ll get back to us. It was one of the hottest times of the year and there was nothing to install. There was no compensation and nothing from American Home Shield. I've been a long-time customer of them and that really frustrated me. And I paid my monthly fees every month.

I usually call American Home Shield over the phone when filing a claim and it's usually an extraordinarily long process. It's a long hold to get someone with the machine although this latest time, it wasn’t that bad of a wait. We filed a claim for our pool and we had one company that came out before and a different one the latest time. The first time we called in, the guy came, looked at the thing and left. He wrote up stuff to AHS, and then they denied the claim. He didn’t touch, measure, or fix anything. And then, I asked for a copy of what he wrote and he said that the company was going to send it to me and that I should talk to the company. I called the company four times and left messages but no one ever called back and I never got a copy.

I spoke to AHS and explained to them that I have a contract with AHS and not with whomever they sent out here because I didn’t sign a contract with whomever they sent out. I asked for a copy of whatever was written up but to date, I have not gotten any and I've called American Home Shield over seven times. The company that came out the latest was a 99% improvement over the one that had come out the first time. Their guy fixed the issue with the pump.

We bought a house and the pool had a few things that were wrong with it. The pool was covered in my AHS contract, at least when I signed it. It didn’t specifically say pool skimmer but it says the pool is covered. It had a price and we paid. There's huge frustration here and I would love to be able to sit down with someone and go over the contract that I signed because it basically does not have details. It tells me stuff like electrical and plumbing are covered. But it's a broad and open scope. I have a copy of what I signed and it was three pages. They sent me something that was five pages and it had a bit more details. We bought a package that was supposed to cover the spa and pool and we got both.

The funny thing about it was there was another guy who I didn’t pay one cent to, but he fixed the light in the pool and did something simple with the wire and it was definitely above ground because he didn’t touch the pool. He went in the box and was able to fix the thing. I pay AHS $75 for the service for their tech to come out and he should be able to do just that. I even ended up with a different section at AHS and spoke to them more than five times. They are the ones who approve whatever the contractor says. I've spoken to at least two supervisors there. One lady really pissed me off because I explained to her that I called up at least four times before calling her to ask about getting a copy of what the company wrote up. She said the company was going to send it to me.

At first, they said they were going to email it, and an email doesn’t take more than a day. Then, they said they're going to email it again, now she was saying it will be sent through the mail. She added that it's only been two days, and that mail normally takes over four days, and to give them a couple more days. I kept coming back but it hasn’t shown up. Other than those, there was an AC guy who came out before and he was good. A plumbing guy also came out and fixed an issue. I would tell my friends the pool story and I'll them what they sign is not exactly what AHS honors. AHS should tell us what is not covered, to begin with, so we’ll know what we’re buying.

We had a dishwasher that was not working properly so we were referred to a company in La Marque Texas by AHS. The contractor came out and diagnosed our dishwasher. The tech replaced the soap dispenser and the motherboard. He did that and it still didn't work. He came back out and figured out that the motor needed to be replaced. He ordered that, came back again, and replaced the motor. Everything seems to be fine now except during the process, the bottom of the dishwasher door got dents and was sort of leaking but they got that fixed. The experience with American Home Shield and the contractor was easy. The contractor company was just slow. The dishwasher seems to be fine now once we got the leak stopped. I've had AHS for years so I would recommend them to anybody.

The other one is still in process and I'm still waiting for it four weeks later. Yesterday, I was having an issue and called in. Whenever I speak with their reps, the interactions were fine. The rep I dealt with was pleasant to speak with and resolved the issue.

I remodeled a house and I had no idea that all of the dust would get into the ducts, so the heat went out because the ducts were dirty. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and the contractor came the next day. It was winter so there was a need for it to be done right away. The guy got here before me and the remodel contractors were still here and they let him in. By the time I got home, he was finished and he explained to me what the problem was. Before this, I lived in a high rise for 30 years and I didn’t have things that could break. And I've never had one of these warranties before. My experience with American Home Shield was fine and I was happy. I paid my deductible and moved on. I like that fact that customers just call them and they deal with it. It's great that customers don't have to look for someone themselves, especially when moving to a new house and they don’t even know who to call.

American Home Shield did a wonderful job. They were able to address our issue the same day. We were going to close our house the next day and we were having issues with our furnace so the home shield that we had, called The Enforcer, acted immediately. The issue was addressed and we were so grateful. They did a great job. We filed the claim over the phone because we wanted action on an emergency basis. Otherwise, we would not be able to close our house the following day because of that issue. My insurance agent and his dad helped us to be able to find somebody who could help us ASAP. We have been with our agent for quite a while and he has been a wonderful Farmers Agent.

I’m recommending American Home Shield to our friends and inviting them to get one like that. It surely helped us so I’ll spread the word. I asked them if they have this type of insurance. I told them that in case something happens to their furnace or AC or other appliances in the house, American Home Shield is the best ones to have. It doesn’t cost much. Ours is $43 a month and it’s worth it. They don’t have to worry in case something happens on an emergency basis. It’s very expensive if they don’t have one so I gave them my Farmers Insurance agent’s business card.

My toilet was running and I had to replace some things in it so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I found that it was easier to do it online than over the phone since the call time was very long. I attempted to call twice and I waited for about 30 minutes then I finally hung up and put in a request online. I called the next day to ensure that the information was taken and after about 24 hours, the particular company called me. Nevertheless, the service itself was great as well as the contractor. I felt comfortable with the contractor and he explained to me what he was doing. Also, they have presented themselves very professionally every time someone has come.

American Home Shield needs to get more staff to help with the call volume especially during the summertime because if you're having problems especially with your air conditioner, the call is longer and it takes longer before people are available to come and do the repairs. You have to have patience as far as getting through because that's going to be the biggest problem. Also, you have to read the contract so that you know when you're getting the repairs done, what the warranty is going to cover and what it will not cover.

We bought a $13,000 front loader dryer and it isn't very good. We've been calling American Home Shield about it almost every year. Recently, we submitted a claim over the phone for that dryer and our interaction with their rep was fine. We know that we need some help and we have AHS for a long time now. One of the contractors that they were using was really slow and they blamed AHS. The other contractors were generally not like that and sometimes they were satisfying, too. Overall, we've been very satisfied with American Home Shield.

Our daughter is also using them now. I was out there yesterday while the folks were out there, too. The contractor was Best mechanic out in Hinesville and I was not really happy with how their tech worked on her garbage disposal. All he had to do was reset it, then he said it was cracked and there was a foreign object. But when I asked him where it was, he never produced it.

The drain pipe was under the home and the home is raised 2 ½ feet off the ground. What the pipe drained turned out to be a health hazard, and it took the contractor approximately four days to get here. I was surprised because he said they would call when he was on the way, and he did. And it turned out, I was the one who was way out of position to be at home when he got there. The tech had enough information that he was able to locate the leak and the pipes that had separated and was probably 75% done with the job when I was able to finally show up. He was on site for 40 minutes at most, and it was an immediate response. This was my first venture into this warranty company, and everything seems to be holding well. The claim was something that needed to be done, it got done and I’m happy with it.

The only difference is, instead of me paying the man, American Home Shield just takes the money after the service call is being set.

This is about the third time we've made a phone call for a leak under our sink and this time, I'm actually wiping water off. There was a hole that was developing in the sprayer and every time I would call American Home Shield and they send a plumber out, they couldn't find anything. Now, the hole in the sprayer has gotten larger and it goes down underneath my sink. With this recent call I made, the hole is now so large enough that I've got the sprayer down into my sink because whenever I turn on my water faucet, a stream of water shoots out of the sprayer's hose. Nevertheless, the contractor, Mike, was very nice and very professional. He came in and he saw the leak on the sprayer. He ordered the part and said that somebody from his company would call us to repair it whenever it came in. I'll anxiously be waiting for that.

I have only met two contractors and they have been really professionals. The one whose name was Keith did a good job.

Although, we paid the money upfront and then the issue happened again within a month so they came back out again. Other than that, we signed up for American Home Shield for the basic. If one of our appliances was broken or needed a fix, they would either fix it or replace it. In this particular item, there are different tiers of levels you can buy, but the item that was to be replaced was going to cost twice as much out of pocket as it is for the item that's being replaced. In the end, we were going to have to pay $2,000 and we're stuck with that right now. We don't know if we should try to get other quotes from companies that are affiliated with American Home Shield and see if their quote was really high.

I read some bad reviews about the contractor company and I called to try to get it change but they weren’t allowed to change. But the guy from the company that came on out was great and I left them a good review. He was very professional, courteous and he fixed it for like 15 minutes. Everything is still working fine since the repair. However, when I chose the option to have the $100 deductible be taken out of my account within 48 hours of the repair, it didn’t come out for a week. They had my account and they just had to do it directly. I called and I was on hold forever. I said, “Okay, I'll take it that they take it." They took it out two weeks after the repair and then I got an email stating that my account is delinquent.

I called them up, was on hold for quite a while and told them that I knew they'll take it out on that date. And the rep goes, “Oh, yeah. I see that now.” I asked him to send me an email now stating that they received payment since they've already sent an email stating that they didn’t. But he said that they don’t do that and asked me to call back a week. Two days later I get a bill of the delinquency in the mail. It came on Saturday so I’m not calling back but the guy told me when I called them that it could take up to a week to have it cleared on my account so I assumed that the letter got sent before the call. I like them to send me some statement that I’m not delinquent and never was a delinquent. If they could send me an email saying that I have to pay, how about sending an email stating that I did? And I want to know that I had a promise that they fix it for this deal. But other than that I've used them twice and it worked out okay.

My built-in dishwasher started leaking water onto the kitchen floor. So, I submitted the claim to American Home Shield and they said they would have the company that they contract with call me in a few days. The company called and they sent somebody out. He said there were two things wrong but they didn't have the part. They will get that part and he'd be back. It took a week between his first visit and the second visit. It would have been bad had I not figured out that using a different cycle on the dishwasher did not cause it to leak. So, I went ahead and continue using the dishwasher. I’m the only one in the house so I only wash dishes twice and during that, I didn’t have any leaks.

Then, there was only one little bad thing that happened. When the contractor came out, the two parts that needed replacement were the seal around the door and a pump. And when he had me signed the paper, I asked to see the pump so that I could see what was wrong even though I know nothing about pumps. He said he didn’t have any pump. But on the worksheet that he had, it said that those two things were to be replaced. He remembered there was another box in the car so he went back out and got the second piece. He replaced the pump and showed me the old pump. If I didn’t have my brain, I could have been taken advantage of.

That aside, the contractor treated me fine. He did the repair properly with a little encouragement from me. And everybody makes mistakes but I’d have to be on the ball. The dishwasher is fine now and it’s not leaking at all. I used the cycle that caused it to leak before. The repair was a minor effect on me having to only use the regular cycle and not the pots and pan cycle. I'm glad I have AHS. I'll continue to keep it because now all of my appliances are 10 years old and they aren’t good and well. They're all gonna start failing.

I called AHS to submit a claim for a busted pipe in my kitchen. I was very unhappy with the service I got from the first contractor they sent. They gave me a botched-up patched job and I'm still having to live with that. They didn't float the sealant like they said and they were trying to upsell me. But the last one they sent was perfect. He had to come back twice to fix the issue. The first time, he just tightened it and he thought it was fixed. But then, he came back and he put a new replacement. Now, it's working well and not leaking.

There's also a problem getting through their lines. There's a terrible waiting time. Sometimes, I'm there 30 minutes to an hour and a half. I also pay them but they don't receive it on time because they're not posted correctly. I've been staying with American Home Shield but hadn't been very happy with all of the vendors that they've sent me. I've had to make complaints at times about that. I've had a problem with my microwave and they replaced it. However, the people who came out didn't get the measure correctly, so the microwave they got was too small for the space. It's also not the same quality than the old microwave I had.

Then, I had a problem with my AC. They just patched and patched it up and it went out. They then made me buy $6000 unit on my own and only give me $250 for it. That was my last straw. I'm still making my payments to them but when I find another company that I would consider switching to, more than likely, I would be doing that.

There were quite a few things that were wrong with the toilet in my guest bathroom, so I called American Home Shield and they called Hudgins Plumbing to come out. The first time I called, I got the automated system. I don't think I ever talked on the phone with a live person.

Also, took Hudgins three times to come and fix my toilet. The first time, their plumber was a couple of minutes late. The second time, he was about five hours late. He was supposed to be here at 9:30, but he showed up at 3:30. My wife had to go pick my son late. Also, the plumber didn't fix the issue anyway. I told my wife what was wrong with it so she could tell him, but I didn't think we would have to explain fully to the plumber what was going on. I told him that it was not flushing properly and that it was not filling up properly. Moreover, when it fills up, it just ran non-stop. I thought that would have been enough information for him to fix it. However, every time I arrived back at the house, I would flush the toilet and one of those three issues would happen every time. The last time that he came out, I was on the phone with him while he fixed the issue, which I shouldn't have had to do.

I know there's going to be a $75 deductible every time I call AHS and have them to come out. I make sure I go through whatever issue that I have and make sure that it's going to cost above $75 to have it checked. I've had to use it three times. I've had to use it for my garbage disposal, my air conditioning unit and my toilet. With my AC unit, I asked the contractor how much it would have cost if I didn't have American Home Shield. It was about $750, so I paid $75 for a $750 job, which was good. I tell all of my counterparts to get AHS. Getting it is definitely worthwhile.

We had AHS send a contractor come and do some plumbing work. However, it was very difficult to get through their call system to make an appointment. They said that one could go online and make an appointment but it was very difficult to deal with because I had three problems and had to document each one. It wasn’t like you could call them and say, "I have some plumbing issues I need you to come out. Send somebody out and do these." It each had to be an individual thing and I ended up having to call them back when I wanted to add something, and so I had to go through the whole phone thing all over again.

The reps were knowledgeable. But evidently, they contract out and have different people like the plumbing outlet that they called to come. When I called AHS back to tell them that I wanted to add something, the rep said that I couldn't do that and that I had to call the contractor. That’s when I had to sit on the phone another half an hour to do that. I can’t ever get to talk to a person about anything anymore. I always get hung up on these phone things. It was very frustrating but it may have been part of the issue they said one of the times that I called when they were having problems out in the East. They said they were having heavy phone times.

We had the contractor come out two different times, for two different issues and both times they did the job correctly and did what needed to be done. There was one time they came out and fixed the washing machine, that affected everything in a positive way. And then the other time they came out, there was a problem with the showerhead. They fixed that and so the shower was functioning again.

He replaced the part which took all about 45 minutes to an hour. After that, he told me it was done and that it was working. We checked it out and it was running fine. Then he gave me some paperwork to sign and he was gone. Since the repair, it's just as good as I can think it is but it doesn't seem to have any problems. I would recommend American Home Shield. I haven't had a problem with them. They're very timely and it's not super expensive.

I had a problem with my washer a couple of weeks ago and I called AHS to submit a claim. This was done automated on the phone, so it was fine. Our appointment was set up for a week and a half later, so we couldn't wash anything for that amount of time. I called the contractor that AHS had assigned to us, which was Sears, a day before the appointment and he told me that he would be here between 8:00 and 10:00. At 8:16 the next morning, the guy called and told me that he'd be here in 30 minutes. He did a great job in fixing the unit quickly and efficiently, and its performance has been excellent since the repair. I'd tell a friend that AHS is well worth the money.

We all had the A/C set at 72 but the temperature around the house remained at 80 so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online but I didn’t know if I was going to be charged again so I also called in and they were very nice and patient over the phone. The contractor who came was also nice and he seemed to know what he was talking about. Prior to him coming, our A/C started working properly again but he checked everything to make sure everything was intact. He said that everything was fine and he encouraged us to call back if we have the same issue so they can come out and check it again. My experience was great and I appreciate everything that American Home Shield did right.

My heater upstairs was not functioning during the cold snap, and so I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone. The interaction that I had with the reps was very routine. They set up the service, which I've had two, and both of the services went smoothly. Originally, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out came in for that and then they determined it was an electrical problem. The only issue was the second service, and somehow the electrician didn't understand and thought it had been canceled or completed. So, I waited a week before calling Home Shield back again to say that no one ever followed up with me and they got the contractor to the phone and got them out to see me the next day.

In both situations, the contractors were very professional. They came in, and they worked quickly. The first one determined that it really wasn't an air conditioning malfunction. We went through all the diagnostics and decided it was the circuit breaker having a malfunction that required an electrician. Then we got that guy out there and he figured out they were just loose and he tightened them up. There was a breakdown between American Home Shield and the electrician, but the contractor came right out and presumably, it's fixed. American Home Shield then sent me a bill for $75 for the second service when I've been told that it wouldn't be, and I was talking to them and they rescinded that. It's still on the books but it's already been agreed that I'm not to pay the second one. I'm okay with it, and ultimately, I got things handled.

By the time I got all this fixed, the weather wasn’t cold anymore, but I was dragging my feet a bit getting the service going when it was still very cold. But I lived through it. I have the heater on a few times and everything worked just fine and I've had no repeat issues. It's always a bit of a mixed bag with American Home Shield because I sometimes had experiences where I felt like I was paying a lot and it was exactly what I should have been doing. I've called a couple of other companies on my own before because I was concerned that the people coming out were really about to save Home Shield money and not me get fixed. I've had some issues, but I've been doing this for 20 years with American Home Shield, and I wouldn't keep doing this if I didn't feel like it was an acceptable service and it's certainly a way to mitigate the risk of high expenses.

I've only got one thing that hasn't been replaced, and that's the downstairs heating/air conditioning. I had the upstairs replaced and within six months it had problems, and then six months later, it had problems again. But the one that's downstairs and 35 years old is working like a charm. So, my only issue is the quality of equipment that we get when we finally have something break down. I've had someone look at the unit and go, "Well, they had me do things in here. So, I figured I got a really old unit as opposed to a really good unit.” With American Home Shield, you can pay for many decades and then maybe not just the quality you need. After the six months, nobody gave me any kind of consideration of the equipment, and I've had problems with it every year, so it's not a good equipment. I've got one more thing to go, and hopefully, when it goes, American Home Shield will do the right thing and take care of it.

I woke up one day and my heat wasn’t working and it was cold in the house. I called American Home Shield and it was really quick and simple. It was less than 5 minutes. Then I got a text right away with the company that would be coming out. They said it could be up to 24 hours, which was kind of concerning because I was leaving town that day. But they reached out and they came within four hours of the claim being submitted. I got a text statement that my tech was en route, and they had a link that I could click on and see their location real-time, which was really cool. The contractor was friendly and fast. The heat was easily repaired and he was in and out in 30 minutes. He had to replace my thermostat and something on my furnace that had gone out as well. It was a really great experience. It was quick, painless and everything you would want it to be. I would recommend AHS.

We had a lot of rain and we had water in the ductwork through our house. It sounded like we had a river running. I went online at 3:00 in the morning on a Sunday and I filled out the options for ductwork. But American Home Shield's website didn’t give me options to explain the hassle that was going on so I made a video. When the technician came on Monday, we didn’t have water anymore because the rain stopped, so we showed the technician the video. He first checked the furnace and he said the furnace was working fine. My husband asked him about the ductwork and he told us he didn’t know. He also said that he was glad it was not his house. Then my husband asked him who would he contact to get the ductwork fixed and the technician again said that he didn’t know. Then, he gave us the paper for my husband to sign and he left.

I told AHS what happened and they said they could send somebody else for a second opinion. I paid $125 for the first technician to come in but if the second company had the same report, AHS would charge me another $125. AHS said that our house is in a concrete slab and we didn’t have a crawl space. So the technician said he didn’t have access to the ductwork and he couldn’t see where the water was coming from and what was going on. We didn’t understand why the technician checked the furnace when it wasn’t the problem. So, we asked for the $125 back and AHS refused because the $125 covered the technician who drove to our house. It was fine but the way we were treated was a horrible experience. Right now, we are looking for somebody from the outside to come, check, and get the ductwork fixed.

When I tried to cancel my contract with AHS, the girl said, “That’s good. You canceled just in time so the money will come out of your account.” And later that day, I logged into my account again then I called back and spoke with somebody else. The lady said that my account was still active and by then it was showing a past due payment because I cancelled my debit card, called my bank, and blocked the payment. The lady said that she was going to cancel our contract but the next day I called again and spoke with five people to try to cancel my account.

Yesterday, I went on online chat with somebody from American Home Shield. The lady there said that she was going to waive the cost and my account was going to be cancelled. I wouldn’t have a contract with them anymore but once registered and I have a profile with them, there was no way to delete it. So, I had that chat saved in case they try to get money from me. From the experience I had, I already told people at my work and my family not to go with AHS at all.

But when they called back and set up an appointment, no one showed. Then they called back again and showed up. They were really great plumbers. Moreover, they were nice, knowledgeable and professional. I like them and I'd use them again. Everything got taken care of and fixed like it should be. However, I ended up having to pay $700 out of my pocket to get the water heater fixed. When you use a home warranty, they're always going to find something else to add on to make you pay outside the home warranty.

American Home Shield's communication could be better. They could also describe what they cover and everything that was going on better. They were supposed to call me back about an AC problem but I haven't had any contact back. When I called them, it took them a week to get back to me. I'm not happy. It was the first issue I had and I had to pay twice for that same issue without it getting fixed. I eventually just went up there, fixed it myself and paid everything out of pocket, even though I had to pay them $200 for nothing.

Then when I called back they told me that I had to pay another $75. But why? I already paid $75 for those two things. It was supposed to be one claim. Then I talked to the manager and they finally fixed the issue.

The reps said that they were gonna take care of it, but it took a little longer because the $75 was still showing past due in my account when I log in on the AHS website. And they sent me a letter in the mail, saying that I still owe them $75. It was a little disappointing that they did that. I never had that kind of bad experience with them before. I’ve been with them since 2012. When I logged in on their website yesterday though, it wasn’t showing that $75 past due anymore. They finally took care of it. The contractors were great people. We've been with American Home Shield for quite some time and in the past, I've had some issues. It was to the point where we thought about canceling because of the contractors that were coming. We had some issues with our central air conditioning and the contractors that they sent out weren’t very trustworthy. One of them went in our attic, didn’t do too much, came out and then told American Home Shield the maintenance wasn’t taken care of. We, in turn, hired someone to come out and they gave us great feedback and said that everything was maintained. So, I had to end up sending not only the person that we paid out-of-pocket their information to American Home Shield, but I also wrote a letter and kept a file on everything that had to do with the house.

Then on our refrigerator, we had the same issue and they kept fixing the same thing over and over every year. They would fix it and for them, it was better to continue to fix it. But I was thinking that we needed a new refrigerator and we had to come out-of-pocket to buy one. American Home Shield didn’t do anything about it. I don’t even recall an apology. And it's frustrating when I pay for something every month and I end up having to pay even more on my own when it's something that they should have covered. Also, it could be frustrating when my claim gets denied and I don’t know why.

But as of late, everything has been going fine. The latest claim that we had with American Home Shield was for our toilet but before that, we also had one for our kitchen stove. It has been very easy submitting claims and the contractors usually come really quick. My husband dealt with the appliance issue. The contractors needed a part for it but we ended up calling them because it had been over a week. They came after we called them, put in the part and everything was fine and fixed. We have an extra burner to use so it’s helpful. With the bathroom issue, I dealt with the young man who was very nice. He explained what was going on and what he was going to do. I would tell others that if they have a home that’s not brand-new and it doesn’t have new appliances, it's definitely worth it and beneficial to have American Home Shield. In fact, I've told some of my sisters, my neighbor and several people on getting it.

We have a two-story home. We live in Texas and we have extreme climates from one into the other at any given season that we’re in and we have one half of our house that was not heating properly and so, my children were very cold in their rooms. We called AHS to see if we could get anyone to come out and take a look at it, and they were able to callback within that same week to set someone to come out. Submitting a claim for that was quick, but I wish I could have gone online and done it versus getting on the phone, sitting there waiting and pushing numbers until I got to speak with someone.

The actual phone call was extremely frustrating because the guy I spoke to kept saying he needed to pinpoint exactly what the problem was. I don’t have any expertise or knowledge in this trade but he was telling me I have to give him precisely where was the problem stemming from. I almost wanted to rip his head off because he said that he doesn't want to cost me more money and for them to do this and get the right person out, he needs me to figure this out. I had to call someone to come here and to tell me what I needed to tell this person so they could get the right person to come here and test. That was annoying. I don’t think it was his fault. I think it’s the business model’s assigned on how they help the customer. They didn't think that through. If people are calling and telling AHS that there’s a problem in the house, they can only tell AHS what they’re experiencing and they can’t hypothesize on what’s causing that problem.

Nevertheless, the technician who came out was nice. I was in Dallas when they gave me a heads up that the technician was on his way to our home. He was willing to work with me and that was really good. He went through on the design errors and sketched out a schematic of our heating and cooling system. Although he couldn’t fix the problem since it was a design flaw in the system not being large enough for the amount of square footage it needs to heat and cool,

he was able to identify few areas that were not correct with the design.

Since I have a background with some of the heating and cooling systems because of my job, I was able to better interact with him and understand the issues that were going on with the HVAC system as far as the design-build out for our home. If I didn’t have that pre-knowledge before he came on site, that probably would’ve been a bit more difficult. I really appreciate the fact that he took the time to go up there, drew an outline to our HVAC system on a piece of paper and explained the flow of how would heating and cooling occur in our home. So, that was good and nice. On the other hand, AHS should have room for improvement for the customer experience and on how they get the technicians set up to come out.

If a friend asks me about AHS, I would tell them to definitely do it. It’s a great investment for your home. This is another reassurance that there’s a cost association for calling, which is that $75 fee, and so, it makes sure that we’re a bit more conservative with our calls for issues. If there are things that we know we can’t fix, we definitely would call to make sure those things are fixed, or someone can come out and give us a quick solution to the issue.

Our heater was broken, so we called American Home Shield and they were going to send someone out. It took a little while because the weather was really bad. It was snowing, so AHS had lots of calls to handle. I told them that we didn’t need to be put on a priority because we had a fireplace and portable radiators. When the contracting company got out here, the technician took a look at the heater and made a diagnosis, and they had to order a part. Then the person who came back out to fix it found that the first diagnosis was not correct. He had to order another part, and then the part came and it wasn’t the right part, and then they got the right part and they came back. But the guy who installed it forgot to re-plug something back in and our air conditioning wasn’t working, then another person came out to fix that.

It was an unnecessary chain of events, but one of the technicians, Ronnie, was really good. He was the one who found the real problem and he found the thing that was disconnected and was able to fix it. He ordered the right part we needed and then installed it correctly. He was wonderful. The other person they kept sending out didn't exactly know what was going on and what he was doing, so that was creating some problems. Had AHS just sent Ronnie out from the start and each time the parts came in, we probably wouldn’t have had everything stretched out as far as it was. The service I got on my claims with AHS was fine, so far. I recently called in for a plumbing service and my interaction with their rep was nice. I had a couple of issues with plumbing in my kitchen and the contractor they sent took care of them. Some rubber had broken off in the faucet in my kitchen so the water was trickling out. They unscrewed the end of the tap and cleaned the plastic out of it. The thing needed to be replaced because it started doing that again. But because I had watched him unscrew it and take the plastic out, I just unscrewed it and kept it off.

The third issue was my bathroom tub, which needed to be unclogged. It was leaking and he said he didn't know the problem. But the female that was with him said that it's clogged right where the pipe is separating. But he didn't unclog it. He said he was going to submit a claim and he would go back to me, but he didn't and AHS wouldn't cover it. The plumber gave me a person that's separate from him to do the work.

I called in to catch up my account and reinstate it. The rep said it was going to be $75 for the plumber to come out so I gave her my card information. Later that day, I've seen a transaction for $55. When I got home, my husband got the bill from them and I had a bill for $10 left. I thought that they had compensated each other in that way. But it turns out, they had taken a payment for the next month. Then, the plumber wasn't paid.

When I called to find out why didn't anybody tell me that was going to happen, I had to get connected to somebody else which I never finished the connections because I had to go to work. I have never resolved it. I also had an experience wherein I was not sure what was covered when I needed a hot water tank. Their reps say that the hot water tank is covered and then when you get into the details of it, it's not.

My second fridge went totally dead and AHS replaced it with a pretty comparable unit. AHS does the job and they do it fairly well. I’m very satisfied and I've recommended them to a couple of people.

I went down to the basement and saw that there was a steady drip coming from the ceiling. I called American Home Shield and they sent out somebody from Spry Plumbing which is a local plumbing company near me. The contractor was great. I spoke with him over the phone and he was very knowledgeable. He knew exactly what the problem was and it was something much more simple than what I thought it was. And, he was able to take care of that right then and there.

I had a leak in my shower that caused some damage on the ceiling lights in our apartment. I filed a claim online with AHS and their website was great. Their reps and the contractors were very good. The first time the contractor came, the issue wasn't fixed because some tile stuff had to be taken out to do that, so it wasn't his fault. Once the contractor realized that he didn’t get to the problem, he referred me to a contractor that would be in my homeowners'. They came in and got that fixed. AHS handled my claim very well. It was a pretty easy process and there were no questions involved. I highly recommend them.

I bought an older house and because of its age, we negotiated to get a three-year warranty contract with American Home Shield. Their customer service has been fine. The hardest part is when I have to call in where I could wait for 30-45 minutes if I need to talk to them. To place claims, I can either call in, which can be quite a bit of a wait. And then, they also have an online process which is much easier. I had three claims in the past few months. And for the most part, I have been very satisfied with the contractors especially with the latest two appliance people I used. They were very professional and solved the problems right away. I’ve had other warranty companies through rental properties as well and AHS is the best one.

I used to live in North Carolina and I had American Home Shield there. I moved to Virginia and I have them here. I have a rental property, and I have them on there too. So far, I have an open claim for my washer. And the last one I filed was for the turn-off valve for the water to the house. I tried filing it online, but it wasn't doing what I needed it to do so I just did it on the phone. Their reps were good. They took the information about the item and gave me a number. However, I had to wait, wait, wait for someone to finally pick up the phone. Every time I call, I have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I put the phone on speaker and just waited it out.

So far, the contractors I've had seemed to be good, except for two complaints. Today, someone came for the leak around the shut-off valve. I thought he would change the shut-off valve, but he just sprayed some WD-40, turned the valve, and said it was done. I'm not expecting that to last. I can guarantee I'll be calling them back on it. My worst experience was when our furnace went out when it was really cold here in Virginia. I called and the guy came out. I was his last call for the day. He was there for about 10 minutes and did a quick fix. He didn't really investigate the deep problem. He changed something out and it worked for a day and then, it went out again.

I was without heat for at least three days because they couldn't get anyone. I guess they were too busy to come out and do it right away. I kept asking, "What happened to the emergency service?" It was 12 below and no one came out, so I had to use my oven to keep heating my house until someone finally came out. Whatever they did when they finally came out seems like it's working fine. Instead of getting right the first time, there has always been a callback and they've had to come out a second time. But at least they don't charge us a second fee. AHS is worth it. It may cost, but to get the repairs done costs even more. I've recommended AHS before.

When I need to get somebody from American Home Shield to talk to, sometimes it's a problem. There's a 40 minutes wait problem and it happens more often than that. I talked to a few people that all gave me a different answer to the same question I asked so that was quite confusing. But the service, as far as getting somebody out here was very good. It was quick.

But in the middle of winter, I had a furnace problem. The people that they sent here made me wait for four days in below freezing temperature and that wasn’t very nice. They didn’t give me any feedback about what was going on and I had to keep calling the furnace people to find out if they were coming, when they were coming, and what was going on. When the contractor first came out, I asked if I could get somebody else out here. I didn't know these people. But I was told that they were the only one in the area and was the only one that AHS could send.

The contractors didn’t fix the problem the first time so the second time, I called the contractor and not American Home Shield because the contractor said that if I had any problems to call them instead of AHS. The contractor came out again but it was a different problem so it didn’t work. The third time, which I did through AHS, the contractors came out and they decided the furnace needed to be replaced.

But I thought that the people were coming here and AHS didn't know what was going on. I called AHS to ask what was going on. They were in charge of getting people over here as normal. When they wanted to charge me another $100 fee because that was what they paid when someone came up because they thought they were coming out on something on me later, I told them it was actually for the same thing. The contractors had been out here a couple of times but AHS just didn’t know about it.

Now, I’m getting emails at least once a month telling me that I have a $100 cash due for having somebody come out to my house. I talked to AHS three times about me getting the email because every time I got it, they thought I was in trouble. But they said that they didn't see anything wrong, not to worry about it and to disregard the email. I told them I could disregard it but the day could come when they would tell me that they were not coming out because I didn’t pay that $100 fee when I didn't actually owe it. I would appreciate it if they could fix that. They said it wasn't a problem. So that was never fixed and two weeks ago, I received another email saying I owe $100.

The contractors putting in the furnace charged AHS to put in the furnace and then they charged me another $725. They told AHS that $125 was for a permit so they could do the work in the house, $125 was for a modification for electricity, and $250 to put in some sheet metal. Meanwhile, I was thinking that they had to do all this stuff anyway so I wondered why they were charging extra. But I didn’t say anything about it. When the guy came in, I asked if they really had to get a permit to work on the furnace in my house. The guy said they had to do that.

But when I called the county that issues the permit one day and I asked if one needed to have a permit to put in a new furnace, they said no. I asked if they could check and see if the contractor's company requested a permit for a furnace in my house for the month of January and the lady there told me they didn't give a permit for that and that I didn't need one. It turned out that the furnace guys charged me $125 for a permit that they didn’t get. They lied about it to AHS and to me. I sent the furnace people an email saying, in a very nice way, that I was going to give them an opportunity to make it straight before I called AHS and told AHS that they were ripping both of us off. But they never answered me, numerous times. So I called AHS, told them the problem and they said they would take care of it. I also told them I didn't want those people in my house anymore.

I talked to this lady at AHS and she wanted to know if I can give her the phone number of the county where they would get the permit. I did that and I talked to her, which was very nice. We talked for about 20 minutes and she got a whole bunch of information. Three days later I received a letter in the mail saying that AHS doesn’t cover modifications, add-ons or permits. I didn’t call about that so they messed that up. I called AHS back last Monday and I told them what was going on. I went through the whole story again and I told the lady about the letter. She said I that should never have gotten that letter and that she was going to take care of it herself.

I told her that if she wanted to have the guys who were responsible at AHS for these vendors in the area, she could come over and see what they did and I would be glad to show her exactly what I was talking about. I have some receipts from the furnace company which they gave to me when they were here. When I requested them to give me an itemized one, they took the permit off and just sent me the same thing with a different date. The lady at AHS said that if they couldn't get the contractor to send me the money then they will send me the money. That happened sometimes and she would call me back in two days. But it’s been a week and I haven’t heard from them.

When our toilet was leaking, I called to file a claim and I was on hold for about 35 minutes. The wait time was the only thing that was bad with American Home Shield. But usually, when I have called them in the past, I did not even have to talk with anybody. I just say what I want and then the voice prompt would tell me the fee. It would tell me to punch in my card and ask if I would want to pay immediately or 48 hours after the service is complete. Plus when I was able to speak with a representative, it was fine, very quick, totally efficient and very easy. Then when the contractor came, the problem was addressed quickly and everything has been working since.

I highly recommend American Home Shield. When a major appliance goes out, if you take what you pay them the whole year and look at what you pay for the contractor to come out, for the services and the one-time fee, you will still not even get close to what you have to pay out-of-pocket for having to replace something major like that breaking.

Both gentlemen were totally professional and their response was timely. They made sure everything was right before they left so I was very pleased. I called in both claims for I’m not fond of doing it online as I’m old. Either of the issues didn't fall under the category that was covered since both were just service calls and not real problems. I am satisfied with AHS and I’m renewing it for the second year. I’d tell a friend or family member never to buy an appliance without having AHS for at least the first year.

The gas-operated heating system wasn't running and there was some board that had to be replaced. I submitted my claim to AHS online, which I tend to do since when I call in, it can sometimes be a very long wait. Doing it online has been faster, easier and better. However, sometimes it won't find my account right away. But, then I found it in one of the other options there.

The contractors were outstanding. They were probably the best I've had in all these years. They were really on top of things electronically and communicated incredibly well. They came out on a Saturday evening because it was very cold and we were using the space heater to keep my dad warm. They were super responsive and very quick. The heating system is working great now.

When there was a problem with a service contractor not being able to come out for many days, I tried to get through to AHS in order to ask them to send someone else because I cannot wait seven days for somebody to come out. There was an hour's wait to get to a human being to address this. That has happened three times over the years. But aside from the communication piece not being as effective, I've been very happy with American Home Shield.

The blower of my AC was running continuously, so I submitted a claim with AHS. The AC technician fixed it within a couple of days. In general, the technicians that AHS sends out are fine. However, I had other issues such as a dishwasher leak that the technician didn’t find the first time. I did a bunch of other things and then they finally came back a second time. And I paid $75 twice and that wasn’t so good. Somebody from my homeowner's association figured out what was wrong. He rolled out the dishwasher and saw where the leak was coming from. Once they identified that, the technician AHS sent was speedy and was able to fix it.

I’ve had appliance issues where it took way too long for AHS to schedule an appointment. They were putting me two weeks out on the appliance, and it was a very long wait to get someone on the phone, too. I’ve waited more than half an hour and I almost never got anybody directly. But today's wait was only about 10 minutes and that wasn’t so bad.

I had them replace my water heater and that went fine and they're going to replace my refrigerator, so that’s nice. I renewed my contract with them for another year, but there are quite a few service problems. They don't have enough appliance technicians to deal with the calls. I'm supposed to get service within three days but that wasn’t the case on my appliances. They only have one technician, and he runs two or three weeks behind. But fortunately, they haven’t caused a real problem for me. I have suggested AHS to people but I’ve warned them about what the problems were.

American Home Shield has been prompt in sending someone out as soon as I contact them. I like to contact them on the phone because I'm always worried about the online thing being lost. But the problem with calling them is that it takes a long time to get answered and I’m put on hold for a long time. I've had several incidences over the last four years that we've owned this home and they've always got things fixed. The issue that I've had was I didn’t realize that I was covered with the fans in my home but we changed several of the fans quite a while ago. I didn’t try to get that back but two of the fans stopped working well. One stopped working altogether so I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out.

Before I knew that it was covered, I had bought a replacement fan thinking that whoever came out, I'd had to pay for that if it had to be fixed and if the fan had to be changed, it would be right there. They wouldn't have to come a second time because I already had it, and then I could just return it if I didn’t need it. I had to pay for the guy to come out for the first time and I understood that. He came out and he determined that the fan could not be fixed so he put the fan up. He went to check out the other one and it needed to be changed also so I told him I wasn’t going buy it because I needed to get the money back from the other fan, which I was never able to do. They told me over and over they would get something sent to me but I never got a payback for the other fan.

I called the guy that was going to come back out and it took several phone calls back and forth for him to finally be able to go and buy the fan. I picked it out and they approved the price. He brought the fan, and put it up. The issue I'm having right now is when the guy came back to put up the fan, they were trying to bill me for that it because they said it was a new request. But it was not. We just had trouble getting it done so they had to be called several times by both the electrician and myself. When I called American Home Shield, one lady said she fixed it but I got another bill about a month later.

We are having trouble getting American Home Shield to pay for the fan for some reason. They've paid for everything else with no problem. It was a confusing situation but there are several different parts of the company and one does not communicate with the other well enough because one person would tell me they were making a request for me to get my money back for the fan that I paid for. That never happened and I called several times. This will be about my fifth call to tell them I'm not paying for another trip from the electrician because it was actually his second trip to fix the fan. He had already determined it needed to be fixed. This is a complicated one and I have been discouraged about it. But every other time, I've had several things fixed by American Home Shield. I've had a disposal that stopped working and they bought a new one and put it on. I've had trouble with plumbing that they fixed, and they also replaced our water heater that was not working well.

They usually do okay and I don't know what's happening but this one has been a problem. My biggest complaint for when I've gotten good service was it's a long time on the phone. They sign contracts with good providers, both electricians and plumbers whom I've had come out. They have very good quality and they respond quickly when I call in for service. My only problem has been when I screwed up and bought stuff, and I should have not done that. Whatever you need fixing, if it's on the plan, don’t interfere with it. Just call American Home Shield and let them deal with it.

The part that is annoying is that some of the contractors that they work with are not nice. They hang up on me and say, "Well, you have to call American Home Shield. They're really hard to get a hold of." It's not so much American Home Shield that I have an issue with but it's the contractors and how we need to work with them.

The contractor came out and said, "Yeah, I do hear the squeak. " He got it running but it's still squeaking and he said, "I'll order the parts and we'll get a hold of you." I never heard back from the contractors so I called them but they kept putting me on hold. Then, they got on the phone and they said that if the dryer is working, they won't come back for squeaks. I also found out from the contractor that AHS is not going to cover a squeak in the dryer. AHS needs to follow through on the claims and needs to have better communication with the customers because we hear one thing from the contractor but then, we never hear if AHS denies it or what. I would suggest to my friends to shop around for other home warranty companies.

It didn't say anywhere there that they would do it during normal business hours. I submitted it on a Friday evening because I was going to be out of town for two weeks after that. I called back and there was nothing that could be done, which was fine, so I canceled and rescheduled. But if I had known ahead of time that it had to be business hours, I probably would just have waited and scheduled it when I got back. Other than that, everything was great. The contractors came out and did a good job. They had to order the part and it took four days to get it in, and then they came back and installed it with no problem.

I like American Home Shield and it's a good thing to have. AHS used to have a way where we could pay yearly and get a discount but they have done away with that. I have the bill coming out every month on a credit card, which is fine. But, I had the service with the home that I had with them several years ago and I could pay yearly. I filed a claim online for an oven repair and American Home Shield sent somebody out. The contractor fixed it but shortly after, it broke. I had to re-file it and the contractor came again, took the faulty piece out and sent it to American Home Shield for repair. Then the part got sent back to the repair company who then came back to install it. My understanding is the contractors get a lot of pushback from American Home Shield to fix things cheap. And from the first repair to the final repair, after it broke again, the whole process took about four months.

In addition to that, American Home Shield never reached out to me and I could not reach them by phone because the wait times are usually an hour and then I would get somebody who doesn’t know anything. So if I cannot fix it online, I just give up and get a real repair guy because the quality of the repair people that AHS sends out is absolutely not more than mediocre. If I would have something big, I'd probably pay more and get somebody to fix it well. Also, it's so impossible to communicate with American Home Shield and I wanted to cancel my account. Then they call when they want to renew your membership and then you can actually talk to them. They gave me a couple of credits and I said I would do it another year but I gave up a bit on them.

But for big repairs such as for my water heater, AHS paid for a new one. I'm glad I have AHS, but it would have been nice if they also paid for all the upgrades where most of the money went. I went online to submit my claim and their website was easier to use than calling. I already knew what was the problem and I told their contractor about it. So when he came out, all he had to do was replace the compact relay. For some reason, this was the second time that that relay was replaced and I don't know if the parts they were putting in are not lasting. Other than that, everything has been good since the repair. My son has the same home warranty and every time he has a problem with his appliances, his experience with AHS has been just as easy. The only thing is, we have to wait for the parts if they don’t have that.

I’ve always been happy with American Home Shield. I submitted a claim to them online when there was a part of the furnace that was not working at all. They called me on Friday and they came out on Sunday. I was thrilled because it was cold and the furnace was fixed in no time at all and it's working fine. I recommend AHS to others several times a month.

Our garage door spring broke and American Home Shield got it fixed for us. It was pretty easy to navigate their website when I submitted the claim. The contractors they sent out were also professional and quick. They were done in 30 minutes. If anyone asks me about AHS, I would say that I’m using them now.

I've had the warranty for about 10 years and I'm happy with it. I don’t have to shell out so much money when I get the repair. When the washer wasn't draining, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online, which was easy, and the contractor came a day after. My interaction with the contractor was really good. He told me exactly what he's doing and what was broken and explained it thoroughly. He had to go to the appliance store to get a couple of extra parts.

I had a really really bad experience with the previous homeowner warranty company so I changed to American Home Shield. I had two claims on the plumbing and they were handled very well. I had one bad experience with them but compared to the previous warranty company, I'm happy with AHS. I'm not a handyman, so I can't fix anything, and having a warranty is the best thing. It's convenient and I saved a lot of time and money.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fine most of the time. But this last time, I requested a plumber to come out to do some repairs on some faucets and things because the whole shower faucet was making a noise. But on the American Home Shield site where you would put in for the detailed description of whatever it is they’re coming out to do, there’s no detailed description that I can put in. It's checkboxes. The contractor said it was not part of the work order so he left without fixing the actual faucet handle. The AHS website doesn’t provide the opportunity to make a detailed work order list of items so for the contractor to turn around and say that was bull because I told them to come out to repair the faucet in the whole bathroom. I had to have somebody else come out and pay another service fee for them to come out and do it, which was ridiculous.

It’s a lot easier and more efficient to get a claim submitted via online, but I don’t get a full work order. So the people that come here to work on stuff don’t have to do anything really because all they have to do is say that they checked whatever it was that I checked on the box. I don’t like having to pay multiple times to get things done that should have been done the first time. I would tell my friends to make sure they check the coverage because some of AHS's coverage is lacking.

A toilet overflowed in the condo that my husband and I bought for my daughter and I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield online and it was pretty easy. The contractor that they sent was there on time and got the job done without any issues. With American Home Shield though, sometimes things could take a little while before somebody can get out there. Luckily, my daughter had another toilet that she could use. Once the request got submitted, it was about five days before somebody got out there. But everything has been fine.

My furnace wasn't coming on. I submitted a claim by the phone and it was good. It’s easier to talk to somebody. The reps were all good. They handled everything right. The techs were fine, too. They came out right away and fixed the furnace. After the repair, the furnace has been good. I would tell a friend that American Home Shield is great to work with.

We had an issue with our dishwasher before and Home Shield sent somebody who fixed it. And then I submitted a claim online for my clothes washer but when the contractor called for the service appointment this time, she said it was for the dishwasher. I told her it was the clothes washer and so she asked me to call Home Shield and get it fixed. It took a couple of calls to get back and they had to put in another service call on it and kept telling me to pay them again. The website kept telling that I owe them and so I had to call again. It took a while to adjust the account from them to the website getting to match up for a couple of weeks. But once the techs got here, they’ve been really good. And we’ve been happy with our Home Shield experience.

My husband handles the claims and does it online. He says that it’s very easy. He goes online and puts in the request and AHS sets an appointment. It always goes very smoothly. After we submitted the claim, the tech quickly came on a Tuesday afternoon. The gentleman that came was not a major company guy. He didn’t have a van from one of the major companies that come and repair equipment. However, he was professional, introduced himself and took care of everything. He did a good job.

He looked at the washing machine and determined what was going on. The locking mechanism wasn’t working so he had to order a part, which came a day or two later. He then installed the part. Moreover, he said that there were a couple of things that could use some oil. The washing machine has worked like a charm since. American Home Shield has been great and we like it. We’ve had to use it several times and we’ve had to have one thing replaced, but even that was very smooth and quick. We’re very pleased.
