We couldn't get water out of our refrigerator and I called American Home Warranty. The reps were very pleasant and put our order in. We then heard within a day from the company that they had contracted with to come out. The contractor replaced the heater to keep the line but that didn't work. He thought it was a faulty part so he replaced it again. He had to be creative but now we have cold water so we're perfectly happy.
We also filed a claim online for our air conditioner that was making a lot of noise. I got into my account and it asked me if I wanted to submit a work order. I then filled out which appliance I was submitting a claim for and then they made me pay my $75 fee upfront. In the past, we've had a warranty on our home and we got fly-by-night kind of people working on our stuff. It never panned out very well. But AHS has been very upfront with getting people and they seem to have hired really good people. They're worth it.

I had a broken refrigerator and I submitted my claim online. I've used the AHS site a few times. The contractor that they hired was Sears and that was horrible and it was a big fiasco with them. But through American Home Shield, they did everything they possibly could to fix the situation. But the freezer was broken for about a month. Somebody came out, they diagnosed what they thought was the problem, they ordered a part, the part showed up then nobody else ever showed up. I kept on getting canceled. My appointment would get dropped and they'd get rescheduled but nobody would ever show up.
I came to find out by the time somebody actually showed up, it was probably a five-minute fix and none of the parts that they ordered had to be replaced. Through American Home Shield, everything that they did was great. The lady from AHS was on the phone with me and Sears to try and get the situation fixed. She did a great job and she definitely understood my frustrations. Now, the refrigerator is still working. Overall, AHS seems to be a pretty reasonable price.

Two of the plugs in my electric box didn’t work. When I submitted a claim online, the AHS site was okay but they didn’t get back with me until I called them four months later. I submitted the claim in November. I had a new baby so it went to the holidays and my birthday and I just never got back with them to see why no one had come. So then I gave them a call and they apologized. What happened was that the company they had me was not in operation anymore. They made up for it, waived my $80 deductible and got someone out here.
When the contractor arrived, our dealing was easy. He looked at everything and told me what he thought it was. He went up to the attic, fixed the problem then told me what he did. Overall, that was my first bad experience with AHS but they're not worse than the rest of the home insurance companies. Having a warranty is valuable and I use it as a tool for budgeting. If I need to budget home repairs, it's good because I pay every month but I don't have to pay a lot at once.

My kitchen lights went out and I had to call American Home Shield for them to fix it. The reps took the information I needed and sent me right back to the people that needed to come to my house. Then, the contractors came and fixed it. It has been working great since they fixed it. And AHS has been good and I've had no issues with the things that they had to had fixed over the time. I have recommended them.
Hi Kimberely,
I would like to thank you for being a customer of American Home Shield and leaving such good feedback about your most recent experience to have your kitchen lights repaired. Also, word of mouth can go a long way, so we would like to thank you for the recommendations as well!

My refrigerator has a panel on the front that gives the ice and it also has a screen where we can put in photographs with a USB port. That had burned out but we didn’t know what was wrong with it. I contacted American Home Shield and within 24 hours, we had a phone call from the plumber. He came out and looked at it. He determined that it needed to be replaced but it had to be ordered which he did. And in about a week, it was in. He came in and put it in and all was done. We’re in a new home and we’ve contacted them three times and in all times, it’s been a plumbing problem and we’ve had excellent response and service. So, I would highly recommend AHS. I've also gone through their online process of filing claims and it's been very easy. I’m very satisfied with it.

I recently submitted a claim online for my tub that was starting up and my washing machine or plumbing. American Home Shield’s website was very simple and very user-friendly. It was excellent. Both gentlemen who came out were very professional and gave me a lot of information. They fixed both problems on the same day and I haven't had any problems since. I would recommend the plumbers to anybody. Those guys were really good. Even the calls were fine when they called to follow up. I've told a few of my friends, the ones that are homeowners, about AHS and hopefully, they could be looking into it.

I filed a refrigerator claim but the people who came out said that American Home Shield probably won’t fix it. The fan still works but it was really loud. It sounded like a jet engine. They said that since it's not broken, they can't do anything about it. I asked them to put in the claim or at least ask American Home Shield if they would try to fix the fan. And he said he would try to submit a request to have it switched out but I guess they never did. I never got a call about it.
But this was my first claim that wasn’t fixed. Others were and it’s usually the same contractors that come for the appliances. They've checked with the dishwasher, the microwave, the refrigerator and the washing machine, and they’ve been pretty nice. All of my claims had been submitted online and most of the time, the technician gets here either the next day or the day after. If I put in the claim the morning, I usually get a call that day to schedule the service for the next day or the next coming couple of days.

The realtor who sold me the house bought me this American Home Shield home warranty for a year. And she told me that if I could arrange for my re-keying through them, it’ll be cheaper and that’s what I did. Everything went fine with submitting the claim, and the guy showed up like he was supposed to. He was lost, but it was okay. He did his job and he was very efficient. He said that he only brought one key so he needed to go back to his shop and get some more keys. I wasn’t living in the house and I just had to go there and meet him. He said that he'll be back in 45 minutes while I might run out and do an errand so we had an arrangement where he could go into the garage, in the people door, and just leave the keys in the garage. And then when he leaves, he would lock the door but he wouldn’t be able to lock the deadbolt.
So I went off and did my errands. I came back in about a half hour and he hadn’t come back. I waited for about half an hour. So now, it’s been an hour and a half, and he never came. And I had another appointment I had to go through so I had to leave. I live about 30 miles from there, and my children lived closer. I asked my children to go to the house that night and see if the keys were there. They went and they said the keys weren’t there. The guy hasn’t called me or anything.
The next day, I had to go back to the house for something else. It was in the morning because I had an appointment with somebody else who was going to do something. And the keys still weren’t there. I called him when I left the house that day when he hadn’t been there. I got a machine and I left a message. That night when my children said the keys were not there, I called him as well. He never responded to me. So when I got to the house the next morning and the keys were still not there, I called him again. And that time, I got a person. They said they will come in a half-hour. And they did come about noon with the rest of the keys. He had me try them out and gave them to me and then he left.
He could have called and told me that he hasn’t forgotten me and he was going to make good on it. I don’t know this guy from anywhere and now he’s running around Eugene with a bunch of my house keys. I’m almost 80 years old so I’m a little paranoid. It all worked out okay but the process was just a little frustrating. And that wasn’t really American Home Shield's fault. It was the guy's fault. Everything as far as American Home Shield was concerned, they did what they were supposed to do.

There was no heat coming out of my furnace. I've heard from everybody that calling in is pretty hopeless with American Home Shield. So, I filed a claim online, which is a lot faster. Then somebody from American Home Shield sent an email stating that someone would get with me within 24 hours from some company out of Ohio which upset me to no end because Lexington is full of good people that would have come out and don’t even charge extra to work on a Sunday. So, I had to sit overnight with no heat as the contracting company came at about 9:30 Monday morning. Apparently, it's an Ohio company that has local representatives, but I've never heard of them before. And I've lived here 40 years. So, I was a little dubious going into it, but they did fine.
The contractor was so nice. He checked the unit underneath the house and brought up the broken parts, showed it to me, said he had one of the parts on the truck and that he could get that replaced. And when he came into the house to check where the cold air returned, he put little booties on which I told him he didn’t have to, but he did it anyway. He was very considerate. They were in and out pretty fast, and it was firing up and it's been working fine. I would have liked American Home Shield to use somebody local that could have gotten to me that afternoon. Fortunately, my house didn’t get below about 58, but it was pretty cold that Sunday. Had it been the worst weather and had it happened in January, I could have been running around trying not to have my pipes freeze all night.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for four years and every time I need them, they’re there. I submitted a claim for my hot water heater. The contractor that they sent was very nice. He said, “I got to order all these parts because it’s an old hot water heater.” So, he had to order the new pieces to join the pipe and he said as soon they have that, they will replace it. I’m very satisfied with AHS. It’s the best thing to have. You also don’t have to worry about having a big payment that’s one time. I recommend all my friends to AHS and my sister is with them too.

I called American Home Shield to file claims for my gas oven in which the broiler wasn’t working and for an icemaker that was shooting off too much ice. The first rep tried to get GE appliance for me because all my appliances are General Electric and I had such good service with GE repair. She tried three times to get through to them. A tech named Joey came in about 10 days and he was fantastic. He fixed the broiler and the icemaker. He was very informative and I was very pleased.
However, I had to call them back though because the oven wouldn't heat during that time. The tech came out again and changed a part that was needed to start the flame. It was covered under the 60-day recall with AHS, so we didn’t pay any additional fee for the contractor to come out a second time. AHS has been great. We've had them for about 5 years now and I did an Excel spreadsheet of all the times they've come to our house. What it actually cost us for AHS service calls and the amount of repair that it would have cost us had we not have AHS and the savings was unbelievable. In the last two years, AHS has improved tremendously. We've already referred friends to AHS. My husband's cousin and his wife who live in the state of Wisconsin took it out on our recommendation. We also referred it to another friend who also took it out.

We bought the home in December and the previous owner told us something was wrong with the AC unit. He did not know what it was but he had fixed it several times and he was tired of jacking with it. That was one of the reasons why they purchased our American Home Shield. They knew that would need to be fixed. I submitted a claim online through my account with American Home Shield. Then I got an email in 30 minutes telling me they had already sent the information over to Ausco Air and that someone would be in touch with me shortly. Ausco Air reached out to me the very next day and we scheduled for Randy to come out and take a look at what was going on to see exactly what was wrong with that particular unit.
He was very professional and he explained everything to us once he figured everything out. He was even puzzled why the previous people who came out and looked at the unit didn't see what was wrong because he found the problem quickly after going up into the attic. He explained that the compressor kept burning out because they didn't put the correct part. Apparently, it was a three-ton system and they put a compressor that could only handle a two-ton system. So when you're running it in the heat of the summer, it would burn out because it can't keep up with the load.
Randy had to speak to American Home Shield first to see what would be covered. Then he also had to order a part because this house was built in the '80's so he also said a lot of the parts that were up in the attic needed to be replaced with newer and better things because they were way out-of-date and out of code. When American Home Shield got all the information, they called me and left a really long message about codes and how much they would cover for each code violation. It was very detailed.
They replaced the coils, the ducting and another part that was not cheap. It's essentially a brand new system up in the attic aside from the outer parts and the fan. The fan was still fine and it didn't need to be replaced but Randy said it might eventually because it's old. I've been pleased with American Home Shield so far and hopefully that continues to be a trend. We had never used our service before and we were a bit skeptical that it would be worse than the $800. But it has basically paid for itself at this point. If we had paid out of our pocket, we were told it would be like five to six grand. We only paid $1,150 out of that, which it still not cheap-cheap but it was way cheaper than it would've been.

Every time we've had a claim with American Home Shield, it has gone pretty smoothly. Recently we submitted a claim online for our washing machine and it was easy to do. Someone came out and did the repairs. He said the machine was old and it has a little bit longer to last and eventually would need to be replaced. But it seems to be working okay. The technician is from Accord Appliance and they've come out a couple of times for different appliances, and they're fine. I've recommended AHS to other people. I've told them what we have and that we've used it for different things, so it's paid for itself.

The only thing that I got great results was for my oven. I was very appreciative of what Mike did because he came back. He was very professional. He took care of the problem and made sure the oven was working right. Right now, I am waiting for American Home Shield to come and check my water heater. I originally called to cancel but the lady talked me into not canceling and they would send somebody else out.
I called American Home Shield and told them what I needed. It took a couple of days for somebody to come and check it out. I have used American Home Shield three times with my water heater and plumbing. They came and fixed my plumbing and then the guy that came out did my hot water heater. He said that they would be able to replace it but they wouldn't be able to update what needed to be updated. He pushed a button and then it came on. I paid $75 for them to come out and push a button.
They sent another guy and he didn’t even try to do anything. I told him what the first guy said because he did not have the equipment that was strong enough to unstop my toilet. I was unhappy with the second plumber because he didn't even try. He just went by what the first guy had said. He just said that there wasn’t anything to do. I was happy with the first one because he at least tried to unclog it. His strong equipment was on back order and he was waiting for it to come in. My plumbing is still stopped up. My water heater is still not working. I've tried to contact the company for the water heater and I have not got anybody back. I left a voicemail but nobody has returned my calls. I am disappointed.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I called American Home Shield and made the appointment for our air conditioner. They told me I could pay the person who fixed the unit and I paid them. Unfortunately, I might have made a mistake and paid cash because I was in a hurry. They never reported to AHS and I called American Home Shield why I kept getting the bill. American Home Shield then called them and said, “Oh, it was paid." But their accounting department never followed through and followed the paperwork that it was paid. I'm out $75 because their accounting department or their provider could not get their act together and report the payment. And when something else came up wrong, I couldn’t get any service until I pay the $75.
I ended up having to pay the bill so I could get service on something else in the house and I'm out $75 because AHS doesn't know how to do proper claims. They don’t train their employees properly to fill out the proper paperwork so the claim can be sealed and done. And their clients still get bills saying, “You owe money, you owe money, you owe money,” which then affects the client's credit. Also, that repairman didn’t get the job the done. He just temporarily did a stop-gap fix and went on his way. It came undone after the 90 days when the warranty was up. So, I had to do another claim for the air conditioner and the next guy took over and fixed it. Their providers are a little shoddy also.
When we first bought the house and got the warranty, it was the first one that was messed up and everybody was full of excuses. And to my understanding talking to other clients of American Home Shield, it's a regular thing. Also, I'm not completely dissatisfied because they have a good electrician because I've had three other calls. But I don’t think I'd really want to say, “Hey, they're great,” anymore because they screwed me out with $75.

The rubber on the dishwasher's door needed to be replaced and the contractor put it in there but it was hard to close the dishwasher door. We had a boiler worked on and the claim was pretty easy to submit to AHS because you can do it online and you don’t have to wait. The contractors also have been okay. However, AHS has cost me some damage as far as with client relationships. I use the warranty on a vacation rental home where I didn’t have heat for a period of time when I had people staying there and it was very cold outside. It took time because of their process. There was another time where I had a hot water heater go out and they had to get a second quote. I had to put people on a hotel as a result because AHS' claims process was taking so long. I had a guy who could fix it and he was ready, but AHS wanted the second quote and it was unreasonably delayed. AHS does some good, but for remote areas or areas where the cost of living is a little bit higher and the cost of maintenance people as a result is a little higher as well, they have issues.

He got the unit up and running again and it has been working good since then. It’s an older unit and had a few issues along the way. But so far, it’s still going. It also needed some other stuff done to it and got a real thorough cleaning when they came for the call. Then they relit the pilot light.
Other than that, American Home Shield has been good for me because they came when I needed them to and their deductible has been a little bit cheaper than it would have been to call up a heating and cooling person or a plumber. But none of the people that responded to my service calls were local to Vicksburg area and we have a lot of good heating and cooling as well as plumbing companies here. The contractors that AHS sent out always came from the other side of Jackson which is 40-50 miles away from me and I don't understand that.

Day 1 (3/23/2018) After checking Google pop up ratings, I thought they are one of the best. How wrong was I? After I signed up and made a payment, the lady on the phone started rattling about policy not covering existing conditions, manufacturer defects, etc. How am I supposed to know existing condition or not? Who is going to decide it is an existing condition? I realized that this is a bad deal from the beginning. A little late to cancel on Friday evening as they are on central time zone.
Day 2 (3/26/2018) I decided to call and asked them to cancel my contract within 30 days as stated on the contract. The guy on the phone said that some problem with their system and he couldn’t confirm that it has been canceled. He gave me a number to call the next day to confirm about cancelation. This is Monday evening. Day 3 (3/27/2018) I called the next day morning and asked about confirmation, the guy on the phone started a sale pitch; I told him that I don’t have time to listen to his sale pitch and I already decided and asked him to send me a confirmation about cancelation. He said that I will get a confirmation email within 24 hours.
Day 4 (3/28/2018) The number they initially gave me (800) 858-1922 is always busy and couldn’t get through. How convenient to avoid your unhappy customers? So I called their main number. The lady said that the contract was canceled yesterday (3/27/2018). I said that I need my email confirmation. She said that they are old school and they sent out a letter yesterday. WOW! They have my information and emailed me about my contract before. Now they are saying that they can’t do email confirmation? Is that a delay tactic to trap you in the 30 days cancelation policy? Whenever I call, they confirm my name, address, email and phone number but they can’t use them? I will update if I receive a letter.
Hello, Stephen. I can definitely understand your concerns regarding items and systems being covered. I do wish that someone could have gone over the policy in better detail with you. I do see that your policy was canceled on March 29th, three days after your request was placed. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to confirm this information.

We've had American Home Shield for several years now. Sometimes we've had very bad experiences with them and we don't want to be bothered with them. There was a leak in the faucet of my sink and there was also another incident. They've been out here three times for the furnace. We've had a lot of problems and they apparently, according to the renter, didn't resolve the problem.

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I have been with American Home Shield for over 10 yrs. Lately in the last 3 yrs the service sucks. I have a broken toilet since October 2017, AHS sent a company out, 3 times and the problem hasn't been resolved. Thank God I have other bathrooms to use. AHS has been giving me the runaround for months. I have been calling and always someone was suppose to me back.
This has been going on since Oct 2017, and still a broken toilet to this day. Not only is my toilet is broken... my central air unit has been broken also. I had to cover $1600 to get a coil replaced. This is on top of paying the numerous service request fee, due to the Freon kept leaking out. AHS only covers 10.00. I am writing this review, because I feel like a homeowner, I have no money to waste on a company that doesn't care about the consumers that keep them in business. I am a single mother, and the reason I purchased this plan so I can have someone to fix repairs without repeated problems.
I trusted AHS to provide contractors that know what they are doing, and not shabby work. This a fair warning to anyone trying to get a warranty with this company, you might not get what you pay for. I have decided to save my money, in a separate account just for home repairs. The money I gave AHS for service fees and monthly charges over the last 10 yrs, I could had a new bathroom with all new plumbing by now.

If you are looking for a home warranty company that will provide peace of mind if unexpected things happen to your home, sadly American Home Shield is not the answer. Do yourself a favor and find another home warranty company! I’ve dealt with American Home Shield for nearly a month trying to get a refrigerator fixed at my home and it still has yet to be resolved. They hire Sears to perform the service on my refrigerator, however after three visits to the home and two delays waiting for parts, AHS is unwilling to just replace the appliance. When you call AHS, they give you excuse after excuse why it hasn’t been completed, the customer service reps ask you why you are calling and not the property manager!
Let that sink in... A customer service rep of a company I currently pay money towards is asking me the customer why I’m calling about my home and not the property manager! Are you kidding me! On other calls, the customer service rep refuses to send my calls to a supervisor, even after repeated attempts to escalate this issue. AHS does not care to maintain your home, but simply is looking for your money and cheap fixes to problems. STAY AWAY! Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this company. Home Advisor is free and does not charge you a monthly fee and a service call charge every time they come to your home.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

AHS is an excellent home warranty company. I've never had any issue whenever I call and it hasn't been a long wait when they've needed to come out and get stuff fixed. I had an issue with the garbage disposal as there was a leak. I submitted a claim over the phone and the contractor came out and checked it. He ended up replacing the garbage disposal. He did a good job and it only took about 20 minutes to do that. He was clean and had the area cleaned up neat. He was very professional, thorough and he answered all of our questions.

My water heater malfunctioned one month ago. Submitting the claim to AHS was nice and easy. There was good communication with the contractor as well. I’m mechanically inclined and I can tell when someone’s not doing a good job, but he did nice and was detail-oriented, which I liked. The heater was replaced. However, I did not appreciate having to wait over the weekend to get a water heater that was down at Lowe’s. A family of four, having to go through five days without hot water, I don’t think it was acceptable. AHS should have different systems in place to prevent a family being without hot water for four days. Also, all the follow-up was annoying.

I had an electric issue last summer and recently, I've had a garage door spring that was broken. I'm a realtor so I have a relationship with the representative so I just called her and she called it in for me. The garage door guy was great. I tried to file a claim for my dryer today because it stopped heating. In the policies I sell to my clients, they all have the coverage so I assumed that I have that same coverage. However, it wasn't clear that the dryer wasn't covered under my policy and I wished it was. So when I got to make a claim, they told me that I am under the old policy and they only want to renew me because I had made a previous claim. I had exceeded their dollar limit so I wasn’t a possible client anymore and they weren’t going to renew me.
Because I sold a lot of the policies every year, the rep got me involved and got American Home Shield to make an exception and cover me but I didn’t know that that exception wasn’t the same coverage that I'm currently selling to my clients. So now, I'm left to go buy a new dryer. I understand there are no perfect warranties out there.

When I had turned on my unit one morning I had it set on 74 but it wasn't heating. It was 69 degrees in the house at that time. So I called American Home Shield's 800 number and they were quick and gave me a confirmation number. Then the contractor came out the next day. He said that he ran it but he couldn’t find anything wrong with it. So everything was good. The contractor said that if my unit starts acting up again we can give him a callback and they will come back. It’s been working fine ever since. If friends would ask about American Home Shield I'd tell them it's the best thing they can get. I worked for a couple of insurance and one older lady I've insured wanted to know what I could recommend for her appliances for normal wear and tear. I gave AHS' number to her.

It was a nightmare with AHS. The heater was disconnected because it was leaking to the pool and AHS said they might cover that and they would send somebody out. They sent somebody out and they said, “It’s disconnected. How can we test this?” And I said I paid the pool people to disconnect it ‘cause it was leaking. Then they said if I could pay the pool people to connect it back and then AHS would come back. I said okay.
I forgot that I already paid the hundred dollars to American Home Shield to come out and I said, “This may work out well. He was so nice. He didn’t even charge me.” Then I saw my email and of course he charged me, so I paid him a hundred dollars. I forgot it was a hundred for the pool people to come out. So, he wanted me to have the pool people come out just to connect it and he would test it and I said, “No. Thank you.” Hundred dollars here and there, and a hundred back, and then a hundred again, and see if they could fix it? No, I’m not gonna do that back and forth. I paid 600 and something that year and nothing worked out.
But I thought everybody and the guy that came out were nice. And I think if they had told me in the beginning that it had to be connected for them to come back, I would’ve understood that. But I still don’t know how you do that in a timely way. There was poor communication. You have to have the pool people here to disconnect it and then for Home Shield to show up right then or you’ll have a problem with it leaking. I don’t think that’s so good. I guess that could be bad for anything, a water heater, or a stove.
Hello, Sue Ann. I apologize that your pool heater issue was not resolved. I am curious if the representative that placed your work order was made aware that your heater was not connected. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

When I tried to get a hold of American Hold Shield the first time, they were terrible. I almost canceled it. I had a water issue, which was even worse, and I was on hold for two and a half hours. Then a recording said that they were experiencing high volume and they were going to call me back so I went online. And they said that someone will contact me within 24 hours. But I needed water since I have a fire sprinkler system built in the house, and without the pressure tank, I got no water anywhere so I couldn't wait. I had a plumbing company fix it, which cost me $2500.
When I called them after the first event the next day, they told me that I didn't contact them. I told them that I did it online and they even sent me a message saying somebody will contact me. But they didn't want to hear it. The second time, my main circuit board for my heating air conditioner wasn't working properly. While I could have fixed it myself since I know enough about air conditioners and heaters and I even knew it was the circuit board, I still submitted a claim and the guy fixed it.

American Home Shield is top-shelf. My wife works at the McCarran and she has a couple of guys down there that told her she needed to invest in home warranty insurance and we did. AHS is one of the best insurances we’ve ever bought. Our experience and their customer service have been great. They came and fixed two repairs and they did it in a timely fashion and made it happen. I submitted the claims right over the phone and I had a couple of hiccups. I just gave them the policy number and let them know. The easy thing is, when I let them know what it is, they'll give me a claim number. Once they give me the work order number, they'll let me know exactly who’s going to do the work. I would wait about ten minutes, call the company and let them know exactly what happened.
They let their field person bring the part with them and then, they don’t have to make a run. They can at least bring a couple of things with them and they can possibly fix it right there and then. The last two times, it was the hot water heater. When I let the secretary know, she said she'd let the guy know. Instead of putting me off until the next day, the guy was in the neighborhood. They told him exactly what’s going on. I gave him a heads up and let him know what it was over the phone. He said that I saved him a lot of time instead of coming over. He said he would get back to the office to snatch the part. He came by and sure enough, he had the thermocouple with him.
He broke the whole thing down and took him about an hour to get me up and running. No gas leaks, fired the hot water heater up and he was done. Some people may not be knowledgeable like that, but I helped him out. It’s a hook up for the people that come out here. It saves them money for him having to run around an extra hour and that some people don’t know the field. The house is 23 years old and we just bought all brand-new equipment. We bought a brand-new stainless steel refrigerator two years ago, a brand-new front-load washing machine and a dryer. That has about ten years on it, but the main ticket items are the air-conditioner and the heater.
For insurance purposes, AHS is the way to go and the guys down at work, they swear by it. At McCarran Airport, they say that AHS is the best insurance we can get. Whoever American Home Shield hires, they’re qualified, they guarantee their work and the people don’t give you the runaround. They get the job done and they’re very professional about what they do. They said it’s worth the weight in gold. They also said that even if you have to pay the $41 a month and you don’t use it for a year, if one of the big ticket items fails on you, they will come, back it up and take care of it. No questions asked and you’ll be on your way so, it was a great investment.
Wow! Thanks Dave. We appreciate you taking time to share your experience. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

During the time when it was extremely cold our heater would kick on but it wouldn't get hot. I called American Home Shield and they were prompt. Their rep located a serviceman and within 24 hours I had a call and they said that the serviceman was heading this way. Our dealing with the serviceman was very pleasant. We were asked what we thought the problem was and since my husband knew more about that stuff than I do he talked to him and told him what he suspected. They weren't here very long. He knew what the problem was and ordered a part. And sure enough that was it. They came and replaced the part and it has been working great since then.
American Home Shield has trouble finding people that will come out in our area. And we're always real satisfied with how prompt they are in trying to accommodate us. We have two children that moved recently and we told them that it would be a good idea if they should get that policy. It's comforting to know that when the man of the house isn't around and something goes wrong you can pick up the phone and call American Home Shield and they're going to come and fix the problem.

We filed a claim for the furnace recently because it just didn't work. When the technician came, he disassembled the furnace and said that it needed to be replaced. So, we submitted all of the paperwork and photos to American Home Shield and they agreed that the furnace had to be replaced. But what they were asking us to pay was what I would have to pay anywhere else to get a complete new system. So, we called them and told them that if a new system costs $2,200 and they were asking me to pay $1,900, the benefit of $300 is completely useless. Why would I pay for insurance for almost $75 per month, plus a $75 basic fee, and then have to pay all of that stuff? The benefit is less than $150 and that's ridiculous.
They said that we could go to whomever we wanted and there was a cash-out option. This was completely stupid, in my opinion, and we told them to do that. But the cash out option they offered was close to $450 only. They said that they have an agreement with the contractors or the technicians, where they have a special pricing which is what they were giving us. And then, most of the cost of the things that will not be covered by the home insurance is charged to the customer. So they were saying that it was either I pay $1,900 or I get $450 and it's my problem. But either option wouldn't be able to solve my problem, so I was completely dissatisfied. We went thereon for a couple of months and then we just canceled the whole thing.
I used American Home Shield only a couple of times, and half of the time, it was a smooth experience. The other half was a time-consuming, multiple-call experience, where I had to keep calling any contractor for a second opinion. It was very bad, so in the end, we decided to not continue with it because it was more painful than really helping us. We have been with American Home Shield since January 2015 and I'm surprised our experience with them lasted that long. I am definitely not recommending them.

But I heard offhand that a lot of contractors don't like American Home Shield because there is a pressure to fix something even when it needs to be replaced. And I feel that that was the case. American Home Shield has been pretty good. But it takes so long to get through to them. When I call in, the hold time would be one hour on the automated thing. There has also been a couple of problems. When I called for a technician to come out and look at a plug in the garage door opener, the young girl that was on the phone told me that there was going to be $100 co-pay. When I asked who should I pay, she told me that I should pay them then they'd pay the contractor. So, I paid her.
Then, when they sent electrician and garage door people, they wanted $100 each. I had to argue with them that I've already paid them through AHS. So, I finally called back AHS and they found out that the girl didn’t apply my payment to anyone of the contractors. So, the lady I talked to applied it to them. But it still showed that I had an outstanding balance. So I called them again to straighten things out. Then, in the middle of the summer, the air conditioner ran out and it was over 100 degrees. My sister was here and I told her to call the home warranty since I was 40 miles away at work. And their guy wouldn’t send anybody out because they said I had a $100 outstanding balance. I was so mad but I told my sister to just pay them so that we could get somebody out there. I called them a couple of days later and the rep I got said that I shouldn’t have to pay that $100 because it was their fault.
A couple of months ago, I had to call and get an electrician out here again. When the electrician came and changed the ceiling fan, she told me that American Home Shield would be collecting the money from me and that they changed the policy. But when I looked in my bank account, AHS auto drafted $100. That almost made me overdrawn and I didn't know how they knew I was going to pay out of that account. They should have called me that they would do that since I didn’t give them permission to auto draft the co-pay, even though I needed to pay it. So AHS have sent people when I needed them and one of them, Remedy Electric, has been so gracious. But all of that happened and when they auto drafted without sending me a letter or notice, that was the last straw. I would be changing my home warranty company soon.

It turned out it was a broken spring. It took about 24 hours for a technician to come out here and he was very good and very professional. He knew exactly what to do and he had it fixed in a short period of time. Everything has been good since the repair.
I am very satisfied with American Home Shield. However, it's something that my wife and I are debating whether or not we want to continue it since they raised the fee for the technician to come to the house. I don't know if we truly benefit from that because the fee is almost as much as what they charge if I want to get something fixed. Nonetheless, I'd tell my friends that it's a good service if you had a major problem done to your house. But for any appliance repair or such as this garage door opener problem, I don't see the big savings in it.

I’ve had heating issue a few times and AHS technicians have come out and worked on it but nobody could seem to fix it. I’d have it set at a certain temperature to go off and go on in a cycle and sometimes it would just go out. I like to set things at a certain temperature, at 74, and I’d wake up in the morning and it’d be 68 degrees in the house. I know it missed to cycle because it’s supposed to come on at 74. So, I’d have to go out to my unit and turn it off. I'd let it sit for a while and then turn it back on to see if it’d reset. It worked for a while but the last time it just did not come back on. So, the guy that AHS sent out came and he changed a couple of things. He worked on it and he got it fixed. I hadn’t had that problem anymore.
So far, everything’s still working. If I have any problems, I’d ask for them again although it'd have been better if there's a call back to check on the status, like a call check. Because if they come out to fix the unit, that’s the last you hear. I know everybody’s booked up and AHS got a lot of different things but they should have a call person to call and check at least 30 days out, not a week, not two weeks. So hopefully I can continue to have those good experiences so I can continue to utilize their services. I like the ease to submit requests, the speed of following up those requests and of working to get those requests resolved. It gets to the vendor. The vendor contacts me very expedient. For me it has worked out because there were some things that I had to get repaired that I’m very grateful I did not have to come out of an out of pocket experience for them.
Hi Takisha,

We filed a claim by phone recently for our washer and American Home Shield was supposed to replace it. But the unit that they offered wasn't similar to what I had and it was not European. I ended up buying another one, and I haven't gotten my money back for that. But the people at American Home Shield are really good and I'd recommend them overall.

I've only used American Home Shield once, but I was perfectly happy with the service and everything they did. My refrigerator wasn't working, I called them and I got through right away. They were very nice and professional. The tech came out and he was able to change the thermostat. I would recommend them to a friend, though it'd be nice if the price went down a little bit. You pay the $100 service fee and then you're paying monthly too, but it is what it is.

My air conditioner quit working. When I submitted the claim, everything had been fine. However, I didn't like the wait time. I had to sit on hold. The lady was very friendly, very nice and very attentive though. She got me a deal. When the technicians came out and checked it they were determined it needed Freon and then they saw where it had a leak and something that blew the hole in one of the lines. So they shut it down and didn't put any Freon in it because they had to see what they wanted to do because there was some quite of a bit of damage. The unit is 10 years old. The outside coil had a lot of corrosion on it and the fan bolt into the upper shield is severely cracked. It could fall in at any minute. They fixed the leak and started putting Freon in it. It took a whole lot of 10 pounds. It only takes seven so they determined that the compressor itself was bad.
The next day, American Home Shield called me and said that they were going to replace the compressor and I just made a statement to recommend that why would we replace the compressor itself and not the whole unit. It has lots of damage and it's not a wear. It's going to go out again and next year, another $450 on Freon. They came out twice this past year and they're already out this year. I need a new air conditioner. I had to mention the pictures of the unit that were taken and the rep said that she would reach out and get them. This was two days ago and she still hadn't gotten back to me. This is Texas. It was 88 degrees. All of our kids are coming here this weekend and we're sitting here with no air conditioner in half the house. It's ridiculous.
I'm not very satisfied at all. My wife is a Realtor and she recommends American Home Shield all the time. Now she's having second thoughts. It blows my mind this has happened. We have used American Home Shield for the last 10 years. Every house that we buy and sell have had an American Home Shield policy with it. I just renewed mine again just because we've had excellent service from them. Previously, we only had minor claims. This is the first major claim and if it's handled like this, it is making me question why would I want to stay with them.
Hello, Travis. I do understand your concerns about the decisions made regarding your HVAC unit. I show that a supervisor has contacted you at your request. We will also have a Social Media Specialist reach out to you as well.

I have talked with a couple of American Home Shield's reps on the phone whenever we were doing appointments when we had a claim regarding our water heater. They were perfectly fine, nice and helpful. They had their sub-contractor come out, look at the unit and tell us what was going on. However, we were a little iffy with the plumbing contractor only because I didn’t know much about the two line adjustments that they said were needed to be done.
When they told us that the water heater needed to be replaced, they submitted it to AHS and AHS approved it. The warranty covered the labor and everything for the replacement. However, the sub-contractor came back and said that they were going to cover this mess but they won't cover everything that needed to be done. They gave us three items that needed to be done and that would cost me another $679. They wanted to charge me $179 for a drain pan. I went and looked up how much you would buy a drain pan for at any local home improvement store and they were about 35 to 60 bucks, depending on how fancy or big you want to get.
When my A/C stopped working before, I filed a claim online. The contractors who came were really good at explaining things and about giving us a big picture of what was going on. We decided to do the whole replacement with them because they were very good at what they were doing and they seem to have a lot of knowledge. On the original visit, there was the $75 trip fee but everything else was with AHS. They replaced the motor in the old unit and it seemed to be fine. They did a good job. AHS is not going to be as handy for the big stuff but it's going to be really handy for the smaller appliances like the stove, the dishwasher, and the refrigerator.

My heat had went out and the unit was blowing out cold air so I put in a service request online with American Home Shield. Buffington Brothers called me the next day and told me to make sure someone would be here when they were going to be coming out. And then they came out the following day. It was a wire that broke and they fixed it, and it didn’t take them a long time. So I was pleased. I have dealt with Buffington Brothers before. So the experience was all good. I like it better that AHS use local vendors rather than bringing someone out of town or out of state. When I first started, they were sending people from out of state. The overall experience has been okay so far, except that nobody likes to pay that deductible every time. But whenever I put in a call, they bring someone out and they usually fix it.

I had a broken inner glass on my oven and then there was something wrong with my stove too. I submitted the claim online but I forgot to add the refrigerator so I called that one in and the rep added it by phone. I was a little worried about doing it online because I don’t like doing that stuff but it worked out well. I got a response from the contractor right away, a couple of text messages and they gave me different ways to contact them which was awesome. They came out a couple of days later and I loved them. The technician was really nice and very respectful. He took my cues on whether or not I wanted more information. And I wanted to talk so we had lots of good conversation. He looked at stuff and I asked him questions and he explained stuff to me. Then he said he needed to get some parts and he would be back in 45 minutes.
He did that but he also asked me if I wanted him to put stuff back together so it's not just sitting out while he was gone. I thought that was nice. I told him to leave it out so I could clean while it’s there. He fixed the problem and he was great. I’ve been telling all my friends to get American Home Shield. It gives me peace of mind and everybody there has been really wonderful. I’ve been really impressed with the customer service. It's not just, "I got the call. Thank you, ma'am. I'll put the order in." They're funny and personable, as well as smart and interesting people. So it’s been a really nice experience.

When we bought our new appliances a year and a half ago, we didn't take the extended warranty on them because American Home Shield has a better warranty than what Samsung does. We had two people come out that we've put two claims in and they were a month apart. The first time, our furnace went out when it was literally 20 below 0. The contractor found out we have teenagers, so he was over here within a matter of hours. He came over in the middle of a snowstorm and fixed my furnace. And then because my husband is disabled, they refunded us our deductible. He said that's the least he could do. And recently, a piece broke in my hot water heater and my basement flooded. My husband went online, he pointed and clicked, then the guy came over and he fixed it. I would tell my friends to go with AHS without hesitation as it pays for itself. Everybody should have them and we refer it to everyone.

I submitted the claim with American Home Shield for our dishwasher over the phone. The granite countertop was too cold and the control was a heating control that was right underneath that countertop so when the steam would hit it, it would drop moisture down on the control and the control burnt out. It just kept running and it got hotter and hotter. That almost caused a fire. Luckily, I caught it. I called GE and they sent me parts for it, but it was basically totaled. Then they tried to give me a dishwasher for about $400 or $500. I had a GE Café top-of-the-line dishwasher, which is around $1,100. I had to talk to supervisors and 24 hours after talking to them, they approved the more expensive one, which was apples for apples. In the end, I was happy.
However, the reps don’t know their own policies on some things. When I had the garage door fixed, they kept telling me it wasn’t under warranty. Then at the last minute, the rep said she'll check with the supervisor. I'm getting the feeling these people are sitting in their houses and don't have the policy. They're just taking the call for American Home Shield. Then the rep went ahead and finally got approval, but at that point, my garage door was halfway open for two days. I have tools and whatnot in my garage, so I called the repair guy. It came out almost $500 and the repair guy they sent out said he could do it for $100, but he lied about it. A service call won't be a $100 and I only got $120 out of that $500, so I wasn’t too happy on that situation.
The policy is only four or five pages and it states what's covered right on there. I literally had to argue with them about their garage door coverage for a couple of hours. But, whoever I dealt with with the dishwasher, they took care of me. Also, the service of the contractors is good. They get their $75 service right through American Home Shield now and they limit my things. If I had a washing machine I’ve got issues but I also had a dryer with some issues, and I think that he can look at the dryer since he’s here, that’s a separate service call. They want that extra $75. Same thing if I have two air conditioning units. They will work on one, but not the other one, and I wasn’t too happy about that part of it.
Depending on who answers the phone, they can be helpful or they may not be that helpful. They need to know their own policy and what's actually covered in the warranty. They're not trained well-enough on that. Still, I recommend American Home Shield to some of my friends who buy new houses, especially if the house is anywhere between 8 to 10 years old. I'm in Arizona and you're going to have problems with appliances, air conditioning, all kinds of stuff from the dust and the heat here. Whenever I recommend AHS, I use my dishwasher as an example. I tell my friends, “If you got appliances that cost more than 500 bucks, basically, if that appliance goes in a year, it covers the warranty because you pay 59 bucks a month times 12. That's like $650 or whatever it is.” It pays for itself. But, if I have a friend who has all new appliances or brand new AC, I'd tell them that they don't need it.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. One was for a hot water heater and one is a plumbing claim which is still active. It has been three months and some of it hasn’t been corrected because of the schedule to have the plumber come. But the plumbers made two trips. The toilet was leaking so they fixed the leak from the lead line but they did not fix the leak from the inside. When the guy came back, he said that we needed a new toilet. I went through all that and saw if AHS will pay for the new toilet. Now, they’re going to get a toilet but the guy can’t come and the claim is walking in status on the first trip. But then I was surprised that the plumber called and came out within a few hours because it was a Sunday. He used the snake and cleaned it out, and he was in and out in about 30 minutes. I also had American Home Shield for 15 years on a prior condominium that I owned in Texas. My coverage never lapsed and I would recommend American Home Shield. It was one of the best investments that I ever made because they replaced air conditioners for me. Had I have to do that, I would not have had the cash flow to do it. So I was totally happy with it. My heater just stopped working and I called American Home Shield and the response was fast, within a day or so. The contractor got in my attic and he did his diagnostics, came back down and said that I had some circuit board that has gone bad. He told me to give him about a day and that he’ll give me call. Then, within a couple of hours, their office called me and said that the circuit board was no longer available and that they had to replace the whole unit. I told them no and that I needed to get a second opinion because this doesn't seem right, especially if they’re telling me that the company is gonna purchase for only a certain amount of money and I'll have to buy the rest. My baby was days old with no heater in the winter so I was really upset at that time.
I immediately called AHS customer support. I told the lady that I shouldn't have to replace my AC system and that I live in Houston, it's a big city, I'm pretty sure somebody has that part. Before I made the call, I did a little research on the internet and found hundreds of them online. The AHS lady was very compassionate because she just had a new baby too. She was very helpful and may have gone a little extra for me. That's why my heater got fixed within the time that it did. She said that she was going to call the contractor and see why they told me this.
Minutes later, the contractor called me and told me that they found the part that they needed and that they will be out the next day to fix the heater. So it was just a little bit of confusion. I work in customer service, so I understand things don't go always as planned. But I think at the end, you find a resolution for the customer. And if the customer is happy, then you did your job. And I think they did that for me.AHS is reliable and you can count on them to fix your issues. Home warranties don't have very good reputations but I've had a good experience with this company.

American Home Shield is completely worth it. I have checked out many other companies that provide the same services and American Home Shield still is much better. Their reps have been very courteous, knowledgeable about my account and what I am covered. When I first got the warranty about 16 years ago, a lot of the technicians that came were under par. But recently, they’ve been much more professional. In fact, the last couple of contractors have been good enough.
Recently, I called them about my garbage disposal. It was broken a month ago and AHS sent out a tech to repair it. But it's broken again and this time, I wanted to request for a different company to come out and fix it. I called them for that and so far, I'm still waiting to hear back from them. That option is not available online. When I place a request on their website, they'd automatically assign it to the last company that came out. I work at home and I was on the phone. I saw that they had called on my cell phone but they didn't bother to leave a message. Had I not called back I wouldn't have another appointment.
The issue was a broken wire somewhere but they'd have to cut through the refrigerator liner to get to it so they decided they were gonna replace the refrigerator. The last guy came out and said that his understanding was that they were gonna replace it and that they should let me know. I heard nothing for four days. I finally called and they said that it looked like they were gonna have to replace it. Then they sent me over to their replacement service. This was on a Saturday and I was on the phone for an hour waiting on hold. The rep was great. She said that she was going to send me an email and that was the only follow through I received. After that, I emailed them twice and heard nothing. Finally, I called back. If I didn't chase them down, it wouldn't have gotten it done. They told me I would get it on the 28th which is today. It turns out I'm not getting it until 3rd of April. I started the claim in mid-February.
I'm a property claims rep. I heard all of our members have American Home Shield so I decided to try them. I've told people they should get a home warranty company and I have recommended AHS. I would tell friends to get it because when it comes down to it my refrigerator was less than two years old and it already had this problem. AHS is going to replace it so the bottom line is that they're taking care of me. The houses are duplexes and one portion of our plumbing line is connected. It was the main intake pipe and it seemed to be more coming from the other person’s side and she had things covered by different companies. Then, I called my handyman and he cut one part and did one little end. It was mostly from her. It ended up getting the leak repaired. AHS has not compensated me and I paid the $75 service thing. A friend of mine bought a house about a year ago. Back then, I'd never even heard of AHS and he was telling me that he bought this insurance to pick up the cost of things that he did not notice in the house. I started looking into it and I told my wife, “We remodeled this house 20 years ago. It's going to be our luck that we're going to start getting hit with some bills on the air conditioner.” She was dead set against it but I convinced her. I said, “We're getting older. I've got all my funds for retirement. I'd hate to spend $8,000 on a new air conditioner rather than spend $60 a month that would have paid for it.”
I finally convinced her to do it and we set it up. We were approved in October and in November the icemaker on our refrigerator went out. I called AHS and they sent a guy out. I made sure I was scheduled to be home when he came. He was very clean. He repaired the icemaker and it was perfect. I asked if I owed anything and he said that they'd handle it all directly through American Home Shield. I was like, “This is impressive.” About 30 days later, I received a notice saying that I was past due on my bill. I called AHS and said that I never received anything. They were very good and said, “Not a problem. Do you want to pay us that $75 now?” And I said yes.
One morning my wife came to me and she said that there was no hot water. We live in Florida, so we use the solar system to heat water. I called American Home Shield and the rep didn't know if solar power was covered. Then she called me back and told me that it was. However, they didn't have anybody in their reference sheets that would repair a solar. She asked me to call someone, have them come and give an estimate, send AHS the estimate and then they'd approve it for a repair. The tech came and we submitted the estimate to American Home Shield. AHS called and said, “Have him fix the system but you pay him the 100% and then bill us.” That’s exactly what happened. The guy fixed the system, I paid him then I submitted the bill to American Home Shield. Last night, my wife said that we received the reimbursement for that. Everything has been very smooth.
At first, I was very skeptical when my friend started telling me about AHS, but then he told me some of the things he had done around his house. He said that his pool pump went out. He called AHS, they came and fixed it. My friend is an engineer, and he is very detailed so I trust him a lot. So far, I haven't been disappointed. AHS is a great company and I'd tell friends to get them if they think they're going to have expenses that may hurt their budget. But if they are buying it just in case anything goes wrong, then it's not worth it. My son just bought a brand new home, so I wouldn’t recommend him getting AHS because everything is under warranty there. Moreover, the appliances are all brand new and the odds of something going wrong are lower.

We had two air conditioners that we had a problem with, and American Home Shield assigned a company to take care of our air-conditioning systems. That company sent out nine separate technicians over a period of six weeks and each of the techs would come up with a different diagnosis. The technicians were coming as far as Savannah and commuting. Also, there was one who was coming from almost down in Florida and he had to spend five and a half hours getting here to change a valve and when he got here, he told me that we didn’t need to change the valve. But Randy, the last technician that came up, appeared to know what he was doing and we would finally get one of the two AC units corrected.
On the other AC unit, the contractor changed the thermostat twice but apparently, there was nothing wrong with the original thermostat that was taken off. That complete visit for the other AC unit from start to finish was terrible. I paid for a different company not aligned with AHS to finish that thermostat change-out and they also did something with the unit and it had been functioning properly now.
We also had one tankless water heater that had to be replaced. We have tankless water heaters in our house and two of them were Rheem. The contractor that AHS sent out brought a Rinnai which I didn’t have a problem with, but it had to be modified to align where the Rheem was and I had to pay an extra fee for a six-inch pipe that wouldn’t fit because the brand was different. Then when the contractor installed the new water heater, he said he couldn’t hook the temperature control up because he was not an electrician. Subsequent to that, I called the same company that worked on the air conditioner and they hooked it up and it came through the control at my expense, so now it’s working just fine. This was an awful experience.
I had American Home Shield since 1986 and I got very good service from them, but this experience was totally unsatisfactory for me. When I tried to get in touch with AHS to tell them what was going on about the nine technicians, I waited more than an hour before I could tell somebody what the problem was. American Home Shield is totally inefficient and I’m really considering discontinuing my service with them.

The drum of our washing machine broke off with the motor. We submitted the claim over the phone but when the repair started, we did it online. American Home Shield sent out a repairman and he was very professional. The repairman knew exactly what he was doing and he said that he had to order the parts. After that, we had that talk to two or three AHS reps over the phone and they really seemed like they didn’t know how to handle the replacement part of it. They were good with the repair part but when it came to the replacement part it seemed like they had to go to their supervisor to get information.
AHS called us about getting a different one. It was cheaper to buy another washing machine than it was to have our unit repaired. The new dryer has been doing great. I work for Furniture Medic, so when I’m out with my customers and if they ask, I always recommend American Home Shield. I tell them we’ve had AHS for under a year and I’ve had two claims and AHS has done everything they said they were going to do.

The igniter switch on my furnace went out and when I noticed it, I called the gas company and had them come out. They also verified I had a leak in my house, so I had them replace that. They said, "You might wanna get somebody to come in and take care of it." So, they closed the valve and tagged it inoperable. I called American Home Shield and filed the claim, and they called me within 12 hours. It was all automated. You call and if you wish to file a claim, press whatever the number. And then you have to say a keyword like furnace or stove. For me, I said furnace. And then there's like, "Your claim is filed". They sent me a confirmation number and I wrote it down, and then they sent somebody out to my house the next day.
The tech was a little bit rude, but it wasn't a big deal to me. He got it fixed in 20 minutes, so that was okay. He turned the valve back on and got everything good to go. The repair has enabled my wife and my children to have heat during the colder nights. I recommend others to call and inquire about American Home Shield. If they're home owners, find out what the deals are and what deal best suits them, because it comes in handy.

Shortly after our American Home Shield policy came into effect the washing machine quit working and a couple of days later the dryer quit too, which was really ironic. I tried submitting a claim online twice and never got any kind of confirmation so I ended up calling it in and everything went smoothly. The contractor was nice and he was very good about tracking the part. The machine was only a couple of years but unfortunately Samsung doesn't make parts for it anymore and I went quite a long time without a washer which was a drag.
They couldn't get parts so AHS was going to buy me a new machine and I wanted it to use my base because it would have cost me a whole lot more to get a new one. I took the cash out and got another Samsung so I could use my original base. American Home Shield was wonderful and I already recommended them. I was with a different home warranty provider for 10 years and I'm very pleased with the switch I made. I recommend them.

The burner went out on my stove. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and since I'm old, I did it by phone. The gentleman was right on time and very affable. He fixed the burner and checked the other ones. Then he told me how to clean the glass of the oven, which I appreciated. He did more than he had to do. I watched him repair the stove and he told me what to do in the future if the burners didn’t light up, what to watch out for, and what to take care of. When I asked questions, he answered them. The plan that I have is very satisfactory. However, I keep getting emails from American Home Shield where they’re trying to get me to try it. But I’ve already done that a long time ago so the emails were supposed to stop.
Hello, Sara. We are happy to know that your service request went well. My apologies for the continued emails.

The contractors American Home Shield were sending get our issues fixed, but most times, they have to come back which is an inconvenience to me since I work full time. There was a pipe for my radiant heat that was leaking and the plumber who was sent fixed three leaks. But then, a fourth leak started. They had to charge me more money because this one wasn't leaking that we knew of two weeks ago when the plumber was here. So, the plumber had to come back, shut my heat down one more time and spend four hours fixing another leak that could have been fixed before. The plumber also told me, "It wasn’t leaking then." I said, "It's 68 years old. It's corroded over. What do you think is going to happen? You fixed the leaks where the pressure was being relieved and now the pressure's going to come out on this one."
Then I also had the plumber today and he fixed a leaking faucet and unclogged a backed-up tub. But when I I turned the shower to rinse the tub down, another nozzle and the diverter were now leaking. They weren’t leaking when he was here. I called American Home Shield back to tell them about it and the plumber has to come back. The plumber said to me that when I shut the water off, it'll drip for a while and then eventually stops dripping. But it shouldn't take a minute to stop dripping. It's ridiculous. Then the leak we had in the basement was just a simple drip but after the plumber got here, it's now a bigger drip to the point where the bucket could get filled up within a day or two.

We've had a very positive experience with American Home Shield. My husband Carl filed a claim for our pool, which had to do with the salt system. I've also done a claim for my refrigerator. The ice maker broke, and I called it in and told them we had an issue. Then someone called us to set up an appointment. The contractor was very prompt and came exactly when he said he would. He looked at the issue and said I needed a new motor. He took it out, and we were without the ice maker until we got it back. But that was fine because they saved my whole fridge. He really put a lot of effort into it and I appreciate that.

Our refrigerator was not cooling and we submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. We went through the regular "push this, push that," and the wait wasn't long. The contractors they sent were good. Initially, a gentleman came out and determined what the problem was. He was able to do a quick fix, but he determined that the work he did wasn't going to last. He said that he was going to wait until he was called back.
Shortly thereafter, another gentleman from another company came out. He was very professional and really tried to get it working. And when he couldn't, he ordered the part and came back. He took care of it and we've not had any problems since. It would have been traumatic to buy a new refrigerator to replace one that was less than four years old. Having AHS was a much better option. There might have been some slight aggravation and we had to constantly go out to buy ice, but overall, we were able to save some money. I would strongly urge friends to get AHS.

There was a circuit that was not working and it kept tripping the breaker. I went out and checked the breaker, and then looked around but I couldn’t find anything. The guy that American Home Shield sent out came in and he checked it out. He found that one of the RF switches, the protection circuit breakers that we have in our house, was not working right. He fixed it and reset it. That cleared our problem, so I was very pleased with it. It took him 45 minutes roughly to get everything up and running. Submitting that claim with AHS went well and the person was helpful.
However, when the garbage disposal went out, AHS replaced it with a smaller unit. It makes noise but the other one that we had didn’t. That was about $15 to $25 difference to charge a bigger one than a small one. But I know what they do. The companies bag the things in bulk cheaper, and sometimes they take a less model or less manufacturer. What they did is that they put a smaller one in there, which I would say a cheaper model, and we weren't pleased with that.

I have had three claims with American Home Shield so far this year. One for my gas furnace, one for my refrigerator, and one for my plumbing issue. I called and I was able to get someone immediately for all three claims. The contractors were nice, knowledgeable, friendly and very good. For the gas furnace, they had to replace some motor. Without it, the AC would not work. The contractor came and repaired it. Then I paid the $125. The clog in my mainline was also resolved. The refrigerator is still in repair and they're trying to figure out what's wrong. I would recommend American Home Shield to friends.

For a washing machine, I filed a claim with American Home Shield on the phone. It went smoothly with their agent. I gave them information and things were handled. I was then notified within 24 hours by the company AHS sent. The contractor who came was one of the better ones and my interactions with him were very nice. The machine was still operable but the tub was rusting, so it had a couple of stops on some items. He checked everything out and came back to replace the part in the washing machine. He unloaded the part out of the box, but there was a big dent in the side of the tub. It was damaged, so he took it back, reordered, and came out to took care of it for me.
Sometimes I forget that I have the coverage. I wanted to have my ducts cleaned and the person who was cleaning my ducts informed me that my air handler went out. It was a new handler that I ended up putting in even though I had American Home Shield because they couldn’t get me up and going in an ample amount of time. I was moving and they were giving me a 10-day frame just to get the part and I couldn’t live in that kind of condition. It was 95 degrees in Florida.
I went outside the box and ended up putting a whole new unit in, but the air handler has mold. They told me that I needed to put a UV light up there to keep the mold from going into the unit and in the works and that it should take care of everything for me. I freaked out that I had mold spores flying through my air. I went ahead and took care of it. That could have been covered by my Home Warranty, but I was in a situation and it was something that needed to be rectified. That’s where I have a problem with the warranty thing. You don’t know it until you’ve got a situation and then you have a long timeframe before things are taken care of. They get somebody out, but then they evaluate it and then it takes so many days just to happen.

I submitted it with American Home Shield and they processed the card, and then we had to do it again. It took a little over a week for the part to get in. Then they came out and installed the part, and the air conditioner appears to be working now. My only complaint is that they only had a time slot between 8:00 to noon or noon to 5:00. I've been with other companies that come out on two-hour time slots. I have not owned a home for years and when I bought this house, it came with one year of insurance from American Home Shield. I was thinking that this will be something that I probably won't be renewing. But they were able to sell me the policy showing me situations of work that had to be done, what a service call would cost, and all of the expenses that are associated with it. And that basically was everything that was covered just under the service fee that I paid. The first time I called in, I had a water leak in my house and I was panicking. The AHS woman I spoke with was very calm. It was at 8 o'clock in the morning and she understood the importance. She told me that she will immediately find somebody to get over here and sure enough, within about 25 minutes, I had a phone call that somebody was on the way.
Then, when the refrigerator was collecting water in one of the crisper drawers, I called them up and told them about it. We set up a day where the service tech could come out and take a look at it. Their reps were very helpful and courteous. They provided very good customer service, especially for this day and time. Today, you do everything online. If you need to service anything or need to schedule an appointment, they want you to go online. Being able to actually speak to somebody and have that interaction made it feel like it was a service request that was taken seriously. I also got asked questions like what the brand of the appliance was, so whenever the repair person came out, he already had an idea of what to expect once he got here.
The guy that fixed the refrigerator knew what he was doing and fixed everything up. He showed me the little piece and how typical it was that this was something with this particular model that tends to happen. And there was absolutely no mess of any kind after he left. The people that AHS has sent out have all been very knowledgeable, quick to get the work done, and have done a very good job. When my year is up, I will be renewing my policy because it's worth it.

They replaced washer
Original Review: March 27, 2018
I contacted American Home Shield 2/25 and they have sent someone out 4 times and still not working correctly. They do not schedule appointments on weekends so have to stay home from work to let them in. This has caused 4 days of work missed and they refuse to refund the service call fee. They advertise 48 hours but it is bait and switch. The company they hire comes out then states they have to have American Home Shield order the part then they come back to install. I was trying to be reasonable and just ask for $75 service call because I give up and will go buy a new washer since they are dragging this out on purpose. Since they refused the refund I now want them to provide a new washer as they advertise.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My HVAC stop working during very cold weather, I had to travel for family issue, I call the company almost 20 times and I was online each time at least 45 minutes. I called HOA for emergency situations, they send a technician and he temporarily fix it, and told me, "You have to change the system". (February 10, 2018). When I came back, My HVAC again had an issue and I put it in emergency heat. Which cost a lot of money for energy. Again I try to call AHS, the same story. After hard working to talk to customer service, they send the technician, whom told me, "One part completely is broken and since your system is very old, you are having more problem in future plus the Duct was broken."
His suggestion was to complete change the system. I had to go out of state and afraid of frozen pipe. I changed complete HVAC, that cost for me almost $ 7000 in my credit card. No response from the AHS, plus the customer service have a very bad attitude in term to cancel my contract. Very very frustrating and bad experience with this company.
I understand the concerns with the delay in service to have your heating system repaired which resulted in a cancellation of your contract. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

I was seeing water on the floor so, I thought I had a leak in the washer. But by the time I got to the basement, whatever water was in the sink has already drained down. I called AHS to submit the claim. They asked me what the problem was and they said they would have someone give me a call to set up the appointment. The contractor then called me and told me when they were coming.
The contractor came out and called me when he was draining the water out to show me that the water was backing up into the sink, and that was why the water was overflowing. The newer washer was pumping out water faster than the older washer did. There was nothing wrong with my washer and I needed a plumber instead. The water would just come up a bit and it would go down so, they snaked up one of the drains in the floor. The guy did what he had to do and showed me what was going on. They came back in to move the washer and the lines for me. The contractor was great.
Even with that, it wasn’t quite good enough, but I have another drain on that other side of the walls so, I ended up moving my washer from one side of the house to the other side, and that cost me $150. It had nothing to do with home warranty, but everything in our house that is covered by the home warranty has no problem. I don’t have a water backup right now and everything is flowing properly. It's a good thing to have AHS. It really helps you in your day-to-day living. You'll never know what's going on, and you may not have $400 to have a repair done. Our monthly fee is worth it for anything. I'd rather pay a small fee now than $3,000 out of my pocket at one time later. I would recommend AHS.

We had a pinhole leak in the ceiling in our dining room and we were under contract so it was stressful. When I originally called American Home Shield, the contractor said that they weren't gonna be able to come out until Friday and we were at the beginning of the week. We had our water shut off and I can't be a week without my water, so I called my realtor and she called the representative that she deals with directly and that lady was able to pull some strings and get a different plumber out. The tech repaired everything on the first visit. I just stepped out for a few minutes to go pick up dinner because I couldn't cook since we didn't have water, and by the time I came back, he was done, cleaned up his mess and already gone. That was really fast and painless, and that was awesome.
One confusing thing though was when I originally called in the issue and the AHS rep said that they will only fix the part of the drywall that the plumber cut out. I asked about all of the water damage that it caused because it was not just limited to that one little spot. We ended up calling out a drywaller. My husband is a contractor so we just had one of his guys come out to fix it. It was frustrating that AHS was only going to fix that one spot. If we're going to spend that much money on a home warranty, I would like for it to cover the entire damage. That would be the one thing that would hold me back from using a warranty again in the future. I was talking to a friend of mine in the neighborhood who kept having pinhole leaks and he said he was considering buying a home warranty. I told him to be cautious and to look into it.

Most issues that I had were minor ones and it would have cost me the same if I hired a private vendor, but at least I have somebody to protect me when I have a bigger issue. And if my friends ask me about AHS, I will tell them that so far, I like it.

I called to submit a claim to American Home Shield. The shower did not work for a month. Thank God we have other bathrooms as it was very inconvenient. However, the repair has not been completed. The plumber hit a big hole in the wall and he said American Home Shield is going to send somebody to fix it. They have yet to even call us to see when they're going to fix that. I know American Home Shield has become quite large because I hear the advertisements and I know a lot of people have picked them up. It's a good deal. However, it was very inconvenient and I think if they get larger, they have to be cognizant of the fact that they have to put more people on to be able to satisfy their customers.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We had a garbage disposal that went out so I turned in a service request one evening to American Home Shield. The next day, somebody called me up and scheduled an appointment. The contractor came out and he was nice, friendly, and took care of our issue. There was a little bit of inconvenience when they came out because my wife wasn't able to be at home right then. But since I work about 10 minutes from the house, I ran over to the house and unlocked the door for them then stayed there until my wife got home. The contractor put a new garbage disposal in so it all worked really well. So far, AHS has worked out good for us.

I'm going to be calling them again because one of our toilets is leaking. I’m pretty happy with them. What I’m not happy about is that there’s no way to cancel a call. And then if you’re calling them, there are 30 people in front of you and I’m like whatever. I waited for the guy to call and I said, “No, I canceled.”

The air conditioning unit was still working but the pump of the unit is inside my house and I had a water leak under the unit. For that claim, I called the repair person directly. They check with Home Shield everyday and I was told I could call them directly. We also didn't have to pay anything. This was the second time we've used that contractor and they were great. I like them. Apparently, the water leak was from a line that had backed up, preventing the water from draining properly. They cleared that line and it's not leaking anymore.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for an extra refrigerator. I scheduled online. It’s not the most user-friendly website but it was okay. I’ve been with them for about two years and so I can navigate through it. Within 2 business days the tech came over. The tech have been here once before for another issue. He’s very amenable, describing what was going on and explained what was happening because I was there watching him. However, he didn't repair it because he said it was an extra refrigerator that we had in the garage and not our main refrigerator so it wasn’t under the warranty. I didn’t have it covered.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised that we’re back with American Home Shield because we had our refrigerator that was in our home. Our main refrigerator went out about probably seven to eight months ago and they sent the same company to come out. I even told them to not send that company back out to me because the first person they sent was incompetent. They fired him but we went probably a month and a half to two months without a major refrigerator.
If it had not been for the extra refrigerator we had in the garage, all they were going to do was compensate us with $40 to lease the refrigerator. Then they finally said my refrigerator cannot be repaired and they did not give us the full cost to purchase a new one. So we still have to come out of our pocket to buy a replacement refrigerator.
I was not happy with that service from the company at all. I wasn’t happy with the lengthy time it took them to get us a new refrigerator. The only reason why I went back with them again is because when I looked at other home warranty companies, everything showed up that American Home Shield was the highest and most reputable one out there. Also I sent American Home Shield a note and told them about the last experience I had before this recent one and I never heard anything back from them yet.
Good morning, Reginald. I apologize that your secondary refrigerator was not covered. Your policy states one kitchen refrigerator only. Unfortunately, the website would not have been able to advise you on that. We are working to update the site in order to make it more user-friendly. Some of the electrical outlets in the house just quit working and I called American Home Shield the next day after I figured out it wasn’t a fuse box issue, like the master switch was split because it happened during the night. I sent in a work request on the internet and they called to tell me someone would be contacting me and from what company.
The contractor was very professional and did an excellent job. He knew what he was doing and he's conscientious. He listened to my concerns. And the outlets have worked just fine since the service. I live in Newport and usually the people they send out comes from Cabot which is almost an hour and a half away. It would be better if they could find contractors maybe that’s closer in town or like 30 minutes away. But this guy did a good job. I have no complaints about his service. I’ve recommended American Home Shield to people before. I tell them it works. Somehow we get to discussing something breaking down and the repair and I'd say, "If you don’t have a home warranty to take care of stuff like that, you need to check out American Home Shield."

The washer was leaking in one of the front loaders on the pedestal so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. The reps I spoke with were very good. They were polite and helpful. They put the claim through and gave me the number of the company that would be handling it. The contractor had to order a part so AHS let me know that it would take a while for the part to come in and that there was going to be a wait time. The contractors were prompt and courteous. They called before they arrived to say that they were on their way and were about 20 minutes out. If my husband had any questions, they answered them. The performance of the appliance has been fine since the repair.
I enjoy American Home Shield. I tell all my friends to apply for American Home Shield and that it's worth it. They don’t have to worry about how much the repair is going to cost or if they can’t get a repair because they don’t have the money at the moment. One repair can make up the difference that it might take the whole amount it costs for a month. American Home Shield is very prompt and doing well. I recommend them highly to everyone. I have four properties and I have it on each property. I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years.

My toilet kept overflowing and I had already called four different plumbers out and they couldn’t figure out what the problem was. They damaged my floors and they continued to do that no matter how they come out and snake it. There was no stoppage and there was nothing wrong. The plumber sent by American Home Shield couldn’t go in the attic but he looked up and saw that the pipes weren’t the right size and he said that they could be the problem. But they needed the number of somebody else. Finally, I got somebody who came out and put a pop-up thing and I haven’t had a problem since then.
American Home Shield guided me through and told me what was going to happen. Everything worked out better than I expected and the problem got resolved. It was bad having a flood bath and having poop flood into our home. But it is so good to have everything working now and not be afraid that I'm going to come downstairs and be flooded with poop. I had American Home Shield years ago and I went with them this time because when I bought my house I was recommended another company that the people who lived here had. I usually submit my claims to American Home Shield by phone just for convenience because I’m able to talk. I got an air conditioning issue, and the billing was up being $1700 and I had to pay. But American Home Shield picked up only $100. That was ridiculous and I was not very happy about it. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield yesterday for the air conditioning unit, and it is still in the works. The contractors had to put Freon or refrigerant in it or and that costs $65 an ounce. But American Home Shield only picks up $10 or $5 an ounce, so I had to pay for all of that.
The first technician that came out said that I needed a new AC unit because the other one was old. But American Home Shield didn't want to do that as that would mean they would have to pay. So they got another guy to come out and he told me that it was Freon, and Freon is not covered by American Home Shield. That was great for American Home Shield, but it felt like those AC contractors were ripping me off, which they probably were. Nevertheless, everyone else has been great. One contractor came out for the pool pump, and he was great. And so was the refrigerator guy. However, I’m not very satisfied with American Home Shield. Sometimes, when they actually pay, I wonder if it’s worth it overall.

I showed the technician where the dishwasher, left him alone and I told him that if he needs anything to just let me know. He thought he found the problem, so he ordered a part, but when he replaced the part, it didn't work. So he was going to request a new machine but AHS Company said no and that they will send someone else to get a second opinion on that machine. The last time the technician came out, he told me that he thinks he found the problem. So he was going to order one more part and then once he gets the part he would come back out and replace it again. We had them come out like five times. The second guy came out three times and he said that he could fix it by replacing a few parts. So, I'm waiting for the last part to come in so he can fix it. If they could fix it, that would be great.
The experience that I have with the AHS reps was good and very helpful. We had a good conversation as well. If anybody asks me about AHS, I would recommend them. I would say that AHS is very helpful. If anything happens to their appliance or anything in their house, which is covered by the insurance, AHS would try to fix it. If it doesn't, they'll replace it. So, it's a good coverage.

The last time I asked a lady rep about the fluorescent lights, she said those fluorescent lights were not covered and that I had to buy them myself. The contractor would come and fix it for me and I would be covered. However, when he came he said I was not covered. I bought six of those lights for 20 bucks, and then the company couldn’t do it. He said if he comes back another time he will have to charge me another 75 bucks.
Last year somebody came to fix my toilet but he said they could not do it because the parts are not covered. There is no part covered, so why should I pay American Home Shield $47.50 a month? They said things have changed and the contract has changed. I have no problem with the people that came but I have a problem with the contract that they're not covering anything. And whenever I submitted a claim I called and it was extremely difficult to reach them. Sometimes they put me on hold and nobody would come and answer the phone. I had an issue with one of the companies AHS sent me in the past. They were scheduled to do a job and they acted like they knew what they were doing and what the problem was, but they didn't follow-up with AHS. They were supposed to call them back and give them the information that they found regarding the problem I was having but nobody did. I waited week after week but there was no call and nobody knew anything about it. The contractors basically came to my house, collected the check, and nothing happened.
It ended up being a big problem because it was one of those plumbing things underground that was broken. AHS reimbursed me for that after weeks. I then told AHS that I didn't want them to send that company ever again to my house but for some reason, they still have them on file because they're the first people they offered me. I had to go back and tell them that they were the people I've had issues with before and I didn't want them. They then went back, put a note, logged them, and they gave my case to somebody else.
The new people they sent were good. The guy took his time to figure out what the problem was. I had several plumbing issues that day and one of them was the hot water not running upstairs and it was really cold outside. He changed the thermostat and told us that the water would be coming back. However, the water still wasn't hot, so something was unleveled. He went in and leveled that. He was very patient. He also checked my toilet and told me there was a problem with it. He tried to adjust it the best he could even though what was under it wasn't his problem. Overall, my experience with AHS has been good. The hold times on their phones, however, have been extremely long. But I'd recommend them.

Then AHS sent somebody else out and he looked at it and he could figure out what was wrong but then when he came back he said that the parts needed for the stove are no longer made. He said that it was up to AHS to contact me and they would replace it or give me a certain amount of money towards purchasing a new one. But it’s been over a week and I haven’t heard anything from AHS, and they never contacted me.
I went a whole week and never heard back from the contractor too, so I called him to find out what was going on. He called back and apologized to me because he thought that AHS would have contacted me by this time. He said there was nothing he could do as he has already talked to AHS and they should be contacting me. So, the contractor gave me a number to call but I didn’t get a chance to do it.
AHS hasn’t gotten back to me on the gas stove and this is the only time that something like this happened. I was in Florida for six years and I had them, and usually, I love them. I would just go online, I’d do a service request and then they would send the contractor to me. I like the fact that I didn’t have to try to find somebody and I just paid that flat fee for them to come out and fix it. He said that he had to submit paperwork back to AHS and had to wait to hear from them before he could go forward and fix it. We needed that toilet before he left and he was already paid to get it fixed. It was such an old toilet and the talk of trying to fix it was ridiculous to me. At 25 years, I want a new toilet. Usually, when you call any of American Home Shield's numbers, it’s just the recordings and a bunch of prompts to get you to live person so it’s easier to do it online. I looked up the pool guy's scores online and I was a little worried because his scores are either five or zero and he has more zeros than not. Sometimes the claim was denied and those are usually with the people who put the low scores but he was really good. He stayed for probably about an hour and fifteen minutes going through the system. He took a lot of time with it and then he had found the problem and fixed it. He got the circulation work going the right way. He also explained it to me. Overall, it was a good experience for me.
The first time we bought a home warranty, I was a little skeptical but American Home Shield has been really good to deal with. They paid both the claims that we’ve had quickly so I was pleasantly surprised. On a new purchase, it’s worth it but I don’t know if it would be worth it year over year. Hopefully, the appliances aren’t breaking that much but when you’re buying out something that you’re not familiar with and you don’t know what condition, I would be recommending the home warranty highly on the purchase while still waiting for the contract.

But I did have a little incident when the first guy came out to work on my furnace. They did not give me a time but the contractor happened to be in the area so he came by to see if I was home. That was fine. It was the dead of winter and I didn’t have heat and he was just trying to help out. That would have been great if I would have been home but I wasn’t and I couldn’t get to the house before he left. But they accidentally charged me when he didn’t even come into my house. When he signed out, it showed him as actually doing the work on my house.
I had to call two times and sit and wait on the phone to dispute it. I was told that I would be credited but they didn’t. So I called back a second time and the girl said that it was going to be credited back on a certain date and that it took time. But I never got it credited and I wasn’t going to sit on the line again and try to tell them again. I ended up calling my credit company and it's in dispute right now.
I’m not able to get through to American Home Shield’s customer service. It was over an hour the few times that I had to do it and that is way too long. I should not have to sit on the line for hours every time. I told the person that sells American Home Shield to our real estate company about it and I was told that they’re supposed to be getting more people. It was supposed to get better but it’s not. The only way I can set up an appointment without sitting on the phone for hours is to go online. But if I have a question about anything, it takes hours.
The technicians also have to do the same thing. My good friend’s son works for a heating and air company in Maryland that uses American Home Shield and he wouldn’t be able to leave a job until he gets through to American Home Shield. He would have to sit and sit. Even when you’re working late, you have to sit and wait for American Home Shield to answer the phone to get the approval to do a job when you find the problem. That’s frustrating for a technician especially. They should have their own private department. She was wonderful and did a great job understanding what our problem was that we were covered. Then she went about assigning a company to help us. A-1 Plumbing called us and we called them back to set up a date.
We were very impressed with the plumbers who were assigned to us, especially George. They had to take pipes apart, find out what the particular problem was, and they fixed the problem nicely. We were very satisfied with the outcome. And George even gave an extra advice with an eye towards the future after they solved our problem. He said that at the risk of running up our water bill, it's better for the pipes to let the water run and run and run extra. He said that's a good thing with the pipes. I recommend American Home Shield to our friends. My sister has them. She told me about it and I've been very happy.

I’ve had nothing but good luck with American Home Shield. My home, unfortunately, is a 1977 mobile home and AHS had problems getting some parts for my air conditioner but they went out of their way to get the parts within four days. Within three of four days, it was all taken care of, so that was great. And then I just had my refrigerator repaired and everybody was nice and polite. There were two different companies that came out. I told to the one guy that came out that my ice does not come through the door and it stopped making ice, so I need it replaced. He then told me that it was due to abuse; that we had abused the ice maker.
But this other guy came and said it’s worn out and he can see why I needed a new one. He ordered the parts. Parts came in and he came back in a couple of days and fixed everything. We had to buy ice for a couple of days. But that was okay. I’ve always had very good and timely service from AHS. I’d give them a very high recommendation.

I'm extremely satisfied with American Home Shield's service. I had damages done to my condo in the past and the stuff that I needed addressed that was within my package were handled in a timely manner. Recently I had to have the spigot replaced in the shower because when the shower is turned on, the water was coming out of the spigot with the same amount of force as the showerhead. My water bill was going up. I like the process of submitting the claim. I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years now and when I call in, I could pay the service fee directly rather than pay the contractor.
The interaction with the contractor was very nice. Rene was excellent, well-versed and articulate. He knew what he was doing and he was explaining it as he was doing it along with the fact that I was asking questions. He repaired the spigot on the same day. It was very neat. He had little booties that you put on over your shoes. He laid a towel in the tub to fix all of these. It was very nice. Now, I have the most fabulous shower ever. Get American Home Shield and you can be guaranteed whatever package they give you. Someone will be there and they always call before they come. Everything is timely.

My neighbor told me about American Home Shield. I didn’t know anything about them and my neighbor said it saved them thousands of dollars. I took out the home warranty in June. I’ve only had it for not quite a year. The smoke detector had quit working. It was on wire and I wanted it fixed. The electrician was great. He saw the problem. All it needed was a new smoke detector. My husband is 84 and I’m 80 and we didn’t know what it needed. All that we knew was it didn’t work and we have others in the house that work except that one. Even after changing the battery, it did not work. We did not know that it needed to have a new one. The guy was very nice, polite, and helpful. We were very impressed with how he treated us.
However, when I went to the chat 'cause I’m 80 years old and I’m not familiar with all this technology stuff, on one of them said that the smoke detector was covered and the next time, they said it wasn't. I was very confused. I will never go to that chat line again. I would have to talk to a live person the next time. Besides, I have never used it before.
I asked what happens to the $100 I will pay upfront if the electrician comes out and they can’t fix it and I never got a clear answer. So they said that they would go ahead and have an electrician to call me which they did. He came out and did fix it. I asked how to pay for it and I was told that I do not pay them and it would probably be put on my monthly bill that is taken automatically out of my checking account. I’d go on each day and I would look but it never showed up. Then yesterday, I looked and it said it is past due in red letters. Do immediately, and if not, they could terminate the contract with me. That was not fair. I should have been notified. I was ready to pay it but I was never notified and that part really upset me about American Home Shield.
I assumed that it was going to be taken out when they take out the $49.08 each month which would be $149.08. When I went on and insisted to pay the $100, they didn’t want me to get my routing number on a check. They all already have it because it’s an ACH out of my bank account. And so, I gave that to her. Again, she said no. She needed it. I did go on today and it showed both the $49.08 and the $100 came out as of yesterday. Come June the 3rd is when the policy would be up and I did renew with AHS despite all of that. I would recommend them and I’ve told my daughter about it.
I know that there are some things they don’t cover and I was able to go online and print out the things that are covered. Our subdivision and other divisions around here are calling Nextdoor and each day you get things from what people had written in. There was someone who said to not go with a home warranty. Their AC, since it had a warranty on it, wasn’t covered and it was a waste of money. But I don’t feel that way because it does tell you that as long as your AC has a warranty, that it isn’t covered by the home warranty. When I went online and I saw if it was electrical like the smoke detector, it was covered, but then I’ve been told by the chat line that it wasn’t when I saw it in writing and that’s what I was confused about. For the refrigerator, washer, dishwasher and things like that, I’m glad I have the policy and I would recommend it to others.

My heater wasn’t working and I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. The tech had to come back because he didn't fix it completely. He fixed the furnace but didn't fix the thermostat part of it. I spoke with the company manager and apparently, the guy that originally came out was laid off. So, it probably was just a bad employee. They came out right away the next day and fixed it. It was pretty good and they cleaned it up pretty well.
AHS has it set up where it is more simple to file a claim online where you just click on what is wrong but you don't really have space to fill in what's going on with that particular situation. AHS then dispatches out the actual mechanic versus the office, so stuff gets lost in translation. Most of the time with me, I have to have someone set up my house because I have to be at work. So, I end up calling a friend or somebody to sit there for the contractor to come so that I don't have to take time off of work.
Even though I can try to relay something to someone, he may not interfere with the contractor. So I am calling them back and telling them that they only looked at this problem and not the other one. Then I’ll have the tech saying that he didn’t know about the other problem. So, that means that AHS was off or didn't relay the information properly. I would suggest that all the information be sent over with more detail. I still refer everybody to American Home Shield. I've had the experience of working with another home warranty company and American Home Shield is still the best one that I've worked with even though I've had some things that have taken place here and there.

I called American Home Shield regarding a small leak that has been there for years and they sent a plumber. The assessment was that there was no plumbing issue. So we dug a big hole in the first floor in the kitchen just watching because the leak continued and continued. And he said that it was the drain. When I took showers, the water leaked by the drain but the drain was perfectly well. It was not the drain. There was a tube inside the wall that had been leaking for years. So I called another plumber and they found the problem and they fixed it. So that's why I called to claim my $125 back because the plumber that they sent just did a very bad assessment.
The rep whom I spoke with did a nice job but when I asked for the manager she never passed me along to the manager. She said that the manager was not available. I explained to her that I need my money back and she said that there was no way to get my money back. It was a very sad situation because I would like to continue with them but right now I'm looking for some other alternative. The only thing that I would like to hear from them is that I have a credit of 125 bucks for the next time if needed. With that I'm going to be happy and I will not cancel the contract. Also next time I would like to see somebody more competent to visit me.
Hello, Fernando. I apologize that you had a plumbing issue that was not resolved through your policy. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to discuss your request for reimbursement.

He then came back the next day after getting the approval for a new toilet, put it in and then left. It's been working fine ever since.

We've been with American Home Shield for about four years since we bought our house, and every claim with them has been a long process. It takes a long time to get somebody to answer, and they'll always say you may have to wait an hour because of the volume of calls. I can go online and do it but I always wanted to request the particular repair company that we were happy with. Online, you will bounce around with different companies and it almost becomes an experiment on which ones are going to work for you. Some have been here to work on a refrigerator and they complained how poorly and late they were reimbursed by AHS. And I didn't need to hear that so I don't want them back. I had to stop the AHS reps and say, "No. Don't give us that company, I want PK Plumbing or it's okay to have Sears come out and fix the dishwasher."
When the tank in the master bathroom's toilet went empty, PK Plumbing's guy came and assessed the situation. The tank mechanism was deficient which also affected the flushing mechanism. He put a seal temporarily so the water wouldn't leak out of the tank. They ordered the part from KOHLER. And when it was sent to our house, I told them when I got them. It also occurred over a weekend where KOHLER was shipping the parts. The guy had the disadvantage of a weekend and the shipping. And it took 5 days before he came back.
You have to take notes on your experience with them. I pay $65 a month to have the warranty and $75 for their service call. They pay for the part, but they tend to want to fix something to the nth degree, even though it's broken. They'll get generic parts if they can get them, to fix and do a bandage fix rather than going through the cost of having to replace something. I've had that experience with one of my water heaters. One finally got replaced but I had to go through a snuffle. Plumbing is the worst issue you can have with AHS, trying to get a really good reputable company to fix it. And I like PK Plumbing since their plumber fixed the toilet and knew what to order. It was a KOHLER part. It was shipped to our house and came in a box. They did the same thing with the water heater. They had it shipped to our house and put in the garage.
I also don't think that it's appropriate if you get a repair person who wants to use your ladder. It's a liability factor if they fall off the ladder or if they damage your equipment. Another thing I didn't like was when they come in and repair and they don't have a cloth to drape over the counter to protect your granite or the front of your dishwasher. They throw their clipboard on the counter. It's usually stainless steel cover or metal cover.
We had AHS in our other house too and we have the same issue. You have to go through the process. If you're a long-time customer, it would be nice to get an express line or if they let us leave our name and number, then call us back. But if they do that, sometimes they already reassign you a company and give you a reference number. And I don't want that so I always wait to hear a voice. Other than that, I have recommended AHS to family members. One of my daughters said it's a really long time to get somebody to answer the phone. And like me, another daughter said she doesn't want a certain company back. Companies want to be on AHS's list because they want or need the work. And so when you get someone and you had a good experience, you tend to want them back. Overall, I'm happy with my experience with them.

It went through and I’d be getting a call from the repair people or I could call them. And I called the company to schedule my appointment. The first company I called couldn’t come out for a whole week so I called American Home Shield and asked if they could switch the company. They said it was not an issue. So far, everyone’s been really nice. American Home Shield was able to take care of my concern and they were in touch with a different company who was able to come out sooner.
American Home Shield's contractor was courteous and they called before they came out. The repair people were run-of-the-mill workers. They came in and told me that I had to put in their request for a part. Their customer service was definitely above average. However, what they ordered wasn’t the right fix. It was another trip they had to make, but it was the unknown of what was exactly needed. And I had to wait another week, but it was taken care of so it was fine. The experience when submitting the claim was difficult because a representative took my information but I couldn’t understand why the actual plumbing company wasn’t getting in touch with me. So, I called them back and I said that I haven’t heard from the plumbing company. The rep said that they canceled my claim because nobody ever said they could get in contact with me. I said that nobody tried to contact me.
American Home Shield was putting in the wrong phone number for the company to contact me. I asked the rep what number she put in and she said that she put in this particular number. But when I called the company, they said it was not the number that AHS gave them, so I called the rep back and I said that it was not the number she gave them. She said it was but I told her that the company told me that she gave them a totally different number. That was the reason the company couldn’t get in touch with me and it took almost three weeks. The rep lied but if she would’ve said sorry that she gave them the wrong number, I would accept that from her trying to tell me that she gave them another number.
I ended up calling the actual company, Bay Mechanical, myself and made the appointment. They came out and they were awesome. The guy was very good and very informative. We just bought this house at the end of November and this is the first time I have had a home warranty on a house. We only took it out since it's an older house, so we figured it would be easier if we took the warranty out as we never know what we're going to get into with. My dishwasher was put in back in 2001 but it wasn't drying. The dishes also did not get cleaned like they were supposed to. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online.
A repairman from Josh's came out and he replaced my upper spray arm. And then, he replaced the soap dispenser, since it's all-in-one and the hole where we put the rinse aid stuff in. He told me that that would help on drying. However, when I pull them out, they were still wet. It helped the cleaning part, but they were still not getting dry all the way. So, I called them back and he ordered another part. He replaced the soap dispenser and the rinse aid dispenser because they were not opening right. But then, it has a vent that opens to help it dry and he does not think that it was opening, so he's replacing that. He was supposed to be out Friday, but he was sent some wrong part, so he's coming tomorrow afternoon. And Josh's, they are very friendly and fast.
The way it works is that if I filed a claim, then I will get an email or a text message that says Josh's Appliance, or whoever the company may be, will be getting in contact with me, letting me know to set up an appointment. And then, when they call, I get a text message that says my appointment has been scheduled for whatever time. I have gotten fast replies back and fast callbacks from when I made the claim. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to somebody who is going to buy a new home. American Home shield works anything and I had a good experience with them. If it continues to be good, we may renew it at the end of our year and just keep it, since it is a lot easier to pay $75. We have been really pleased with everything.

They had to come back out and ordered some more parts but in a few days, those parts went bad.
On the third time they came back out for the washer, they diagnosed the transmission to actually be the problem that caused the other problems. The switches would short out and they said there were no parts that they could order for it and they could not fix it. It had been about a seven-week process already and I had to go out and buy a new washer. And I've been waiting for American Home Shield to call me back and tell me if they're going to refund me some money. Our heat pump outside in a remote home in Florida had an issue. I filed a claim online since it was horrible to get through American Home Shield on the phone. I wait forever and every time I call, even at weird hours, they always play the message that they're really busy. I had someone in Florida who met the contractor. It was two different people. First, someone came out and diagnosed the problem. Then, we had to wait for a part which took a little while. Another person came in to put the part in. It turned out that the people they sent out made a big mistake. They fixed the original problem but they forgot to plug something back in all the way. That contractor never took the time to make sure that the actual problem was completely fixed because the air conditioner never really came back on. It almost caused a fire because it heated everything up.
I had to call a private company that night and have them fix what the other tech forgot to do. The heat pump is fixed now. I called the people who were supposed to fix the problem originally and I told them that when the guy left, he didn’t do things and he could have caused a big fire. Then, the owner of the company called me the next day and they reimbursed me for the service call to bring the other people out.
I kind of debate whether I'm going to drop AHS or not. But I have a remote property and it's just more convenient. One or two times I may have to call them out for the year. It sorts of pays for itself in my line with what it would cost for a service call to come out so, that's why I keep it. For the big huge repairs, I have to prove too many things to AHS. So, I know that if my AC completely goes down and they talk about a new one, I'm going to have to pay it out of my pocket because they're going to take too long to get something done. But for the little things like the plumbing calls I've had, it kind of paid for itself. I can justify continuing to pay for months.

He was excellent, understood my description of the problem and was really easy to work with it. I submitted a claim for that online. I’ve used their website twice and it has all been good every time. American Home Shield is an excellent buy except for the fact that I give $75 every time I need to call. That seemed to be a little ridiculous just for a simple plumbing problem. If I wasn’t disabled, I could have fixed it myself. That's why I could tell the guy what I needed, although I don’t have the hands to do it. Nevertheless, the plumbing has been performing great since the repair.

My heating unit's temperature was like 80 - 82 and it's still blowing cold air so I called American Home Shield and made a claim about it. When the technician came to fix it he did something but it was still blowing cold air that night. So I asked if he could come and see it again and he said I needed a control tab. He tried to order from American Home Shield and then he got the part from somewhere in Columbus or West Point. He came and put it back in the next day. They were very prompt, on time and everything was fine.

My hot water tank needed a repair and I called American Home Shield. The tech came over after a day or two and we got along fine. But I had to pay extra because the hook up that was on the water tank was different from the one he installed. He had to go out, buy an extra part, and put it in extra time. American Home Shield refused to pay him for that and it cost me $200. Right now, I need to call them to have them come and check the furnace. It keeps acting up on me. But I'm afraid it's going to cost me again. Even so, I would tell a friend that I was satisfied with Home Shield when they worked properly.
