    I had a problem with the other few stuff in the refrigerator but the main problem was the icemaker. The contractor went here and they fixed it up but they forgot to put the little metal bar that automatically shuts the icemaker when it’s full otherwise it produces more ice. After that, I called the company and I told them that the icemaker was producing ice like crazy and it could not stop. I asked them when are they going to come. I told them it has to be Monday or Friday before 12 PM because I have to go to my work. And it has to be after 4:00 if it’s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

    Two weeks ago, the contractor told me that they’ll call me the next week but nobody called. I called last week asking when are they going to come to fix it. Then, they told me they didn’t have an appointment or somebody available. I told them that they already fixed this and now I needed to re-fix it because the icemaker is producing ice like crazy. They then told me that they’ll let me know and I said that I’ll call my insurance company.

    So, for that reason, I called American Home Shield again and then someone put a claim in order so they can for sure call me because they have like a 48 hours. They told me that the schedule will be on Thursday. But in the morning, I called them that I had an emergency because the contractor told me that the person is on his way to fix it. They then told me, thet they're going to let me know when our schedule would be. I then told them that I needed them to fix it as fast as they could. They said they would next Monday, which was in three days. So, I'm waiting for someone from that company to call me today to tell me at what time exactly is the person going to come on Monday to fix the icemaker. That aside, the guy who went to my house was really nice. But the customer service with the contractor was really bad and I didn’t like it. I don't know why I have to call them many times in order to fix the problem.

    I'd never really considered anything like a home warranty but I ended up having the American Home Shield coverage when I purchased the house as part of the purchase agreement and the previous owners were going to pay for the service. It turned out really well since we've only been in the house for about a month or so, and our first experience using AHS worked out to be a good experience. We had an issue with the furnace lighting up then it would shut down. It will only run a few seconds and then, it wouldn't bring the house up to heat. I submitted my claim through the Internet and it was easy. I'm hearing impaired so sometimes the Internet is better. Then the contractor they sent was very friendly. He arrived on time, he got busy, fixed the problem, and replaced the part. Now the house stays warmer and the furnace runs correctly. The warranty has been a good investment so far.

    I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink and the AHS rep said that they would have someone to come out later. She called back to let me know when someone would be out and the timeframe. A contractor came in with a younger person who assisted him. He told me about some work that had been done previously and wondered why the plumber didn’t do something else that he thought should have been done. He resolved the issue and we haven’t had any problems since.

    I noticed that we had some mold underneath the sink. I thought that would have been covered by American Shield but when I called back to discuss that with the representative, they said it wasn’t. I went over my contract and I saw that it was not covered so I was disappointed about that. We’ve used American Home Shield twice, once for a problem in the bathroom, with that mold, and this recent one. Both times, we were very pleased. We had a different plumber for each problem but both were very professional.

    My garbage disposal was broken and I submitted that claim online. Their website was self-explanatory so I recommend it. The contractor was very friendly. He got straight to the point and didn’t do any small talk. He just went straight to business, fixed it for 20 minutes top and left. The first time he came, there was still a leakage problem so I called them back after a week. They came back out and they installed a new garbage disposal. Since then, it's been good. I just signed up in January but so far, with what I've experienced and what I heard from my mom, it has been a good deal.     We had a thermostat issue where the main thermostat in the house was not turning on and it seemed like an electrical wiring issue. We had someone come a couple of different times before the actual problem was diagnosed. One of the times, the techs came and thought that it was potentially due to a stripped wire. The guy fixed it temporarily, but then it stopped working quickly thereafter within that same day. So, we had to call the air conditioning company that American Home Shield sent back again.

    Another guy came and he did a more thorough investigation and check-up. He was able to figure out what the problem was and he fixed it, and since then, we have not had a problem. The techs were professional and very helpful. They did a great job. It was a complicated problem, and even though they weren’t able to fix it completely the first time, they came back without any complaints and were able to get it fixed. At this point the appliance is still working, so we’re happy. When it wasn’t working, it was hot in one of the sections of our home. But now that it’s fixed, everything is good.

    We moved into the house two months ago and we had an issue with one of the water heaters, and we were not happy with the plumbing company that was initially sent to us by American Home Shield. But as far as the air conditioning issue, they’ve done a good job with that. I would definitely tell my friends that if they were buying a home that had been lived in previously by another family, having American Home Shield is a good idea because you never really know what things might come up that need to be fixed.

    My latest issue was with my heater. I just called up American Home Shield and submitted the claim. The interaction with their rep was really good and they handled the claim very well. The interaction with the contractor was good as well, but there was some confusion on whether they were going to replace the exchanger or replace the whole unit itself. There was a little back and forth squabble on what the contractors were going to do and what American Home Shield was going to cover. Basically, the whole inside of the heater had to be replaced and it was an expensive part. Bottomline, the quality of work was good, however, it took three weeks to get the part in. So, my family had to do without heat for several weeks. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has been good and I’ve been well pleased with them. The service I get from them has all been good. I encourage everybody to absolutely get it.

    Water was overflowing, coming up out of the tub and out of the toilets. I called American Home Shield to submit my claim and it took longer to get ahold of a rep than talking to them. The technician called me within 24 hours and they were out to the property in 48 hours. I had a good experience with the technician. Having a home warranty is really valuable, the way American Home Shield cares. I do not stress as much about taking on the whole burden of the problem. I have recommended them. I told other people that if they want to release their pressure on a home property to somebody, get some insurance and they’ll help them not think about it as much.

    The washing machine had an issue with the water pump. It had just worn out. The paddle bit was worn into the side of the motor. I phoned American Home Shield about it and the contractor was out within 48 hours. He was really good and knowledgeable. He knew what he was doing and fixed the proper parts. Since the repair, we haven’t had any problems and the noise went away. It started performing better and he fixed the problem. I told my friends to go and get a warranty from American Home Shield because it saves money in the long term. I’ve recommended them to 15 people.

    The only problem with American Home Shield is that they don’t assess the home before they take on the client. The reason is long term. I found out that there were some renter people in the town that I live that ensured about 10 or 12 rental houses that were about to fall down so it raises everybody else’s rate to cover it. Basically, when somebody bought 10 or 12 rental houses that haven’t had a screw twisted on it in 50 years and then has used up most of the property of American Home Shield to fix that problem. You’ll find them by looking for the plumbing issue. All the plumbing has to be done and they’ll continue to repair. Because basically, it gets passed on to the rest of us and it also takes its return on investment away from the investor.

    I had a plumbing problem and three plumbing companies came. They did not have an insurance and I took three days off so far in the last three Fridays from work. Today, Hers & His Plumbing came downstairs to my condo and said that somebody canceled the order but we did not. I was told to call their company. I called Hers & His and the lines were busy for 55 minutes. I couldn't get anybody to answer. I also called AHS four different times, yesterday and today. They put me on hold then disconnected it. It's the worst company in the universe to do business with.

    This is my first claim and the problem has not been resolved. I was told another department would handle it. I have two issues. One is the service has not yet been performed. For the last two weeks, I had been jerked around. Three days they called me and in the three days I took off work, I lost money. And now, nobody is here. Another issue is I paid for a new contract to American Shield for next year's renewal. I am a customer for a year. I paid for a renewal on my credit card three weeks back. They said I will get a new contract but they haven't sent it to me. I called them and they said there was a special department that dealt with it then they disconnected. I would never do business with AHS and I would never recommend them. It is the worst experience I had and I regret our signing up with them.

    My washing machine quit working so I went online to submit a claim, a process that was very easy, and the next day, somebody called me and set up an appointment. I was shocked at how quickly that happened because it was right around Thanksgiving. The contractor then came and he was very good. Apparently the unit needed a motor. He ordered that and then he called me and set up the appointment to come place it in. The only thing I'm worried about is, he told me that he spilled some water that was left in the tub because he had to get the motor in. He told me to not worry, but a month later it's still wet, so something's leaking somewhere. But the unit's working fine. I was pleased with the service.

    I recently filed a claim online with American Home Shield for a furnace that was not working and it was very easy. The site is very user-friendly. The first contractor was a bit late but he had some car problems and it wasn’t much of a big deal. We thought we had fixed the furnace, then they left. Did the same thing the next day. I re-initiated the call and called them directly versus back to American Home Shield. They came out at home again and then repaired the item. The only thing that my wife dislikes is they do not do any type of preventative maintenance. The biggest problem would be the annual HVAC, your heating and your air conditioning that you want for a possible preventative or identifying problems that are gonna be sooner than later.

    Our icemaker quit working and the clothes washer started to leak. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the phone and I called them on a late Friday afternoon. I was on hold for over 48 minutes before I finally hung up so I was really pissed. And I even told them that when I finally got ahold of them the following Monday. A recording that would have come on and said, “We’re now closed. Please call back on Monday” would have been better than getting that same cycle, “We’ll be with you in a moment, your call is important to us”, for 48 minutes. I was really ticked off about their automated service that day. But every time I talked to a human being, they've been very good.

    The contractor was fine and professional. He tried to see if he could fix the ice cube maker. And after a couple of attempts for different things to fix, he just took the whole thing out, replaced, then put a new one in and hooked it all back up. It was a 20-minute process where it would need to fill up with water, freeze, and then dump the ice cubes. He was smart to do the ice maker fix first. When we thought that was done, we left it and then he went to the clothes washer and took off the frame. He found out that the pump that pumps out the wastewater was leaking. He showed me exactly where it was leaking and popped in a new one. And by the time he got all the cleanup done and ready to go out, the ice cube maker was churning out ice cubes. I was very happy with his professionalism and the results. The appliances have been perfectly working since then.

    We found out that our water heater wasn't working efficiently so we submitted a claim with American Home Shield. That was easy. We made the call and they got somebody out. However, the tech was a little unprofessional. He had his wife with him and I don't know what she was here for. And the first day he showed up, he was in a white shirt and jeans with a little makeshift badge that said plumber on it. The next time he showed up, he was wearing another white shirt but he had his plumbing company's name on it written in Sharpie. He was just an odd individual.

    He was also negligent when he had his wife test the water pressure to my old water heater. She just turned it on then when she unplugged it, it didn't close all the way and it shot water everywhere. Thankfully, I'm in water mitigation so I knew how to properly dry and make sure I didn't grow any mold. But I'm not too mad. The guy came and did his job and my water heater works now. All in all, they were out here a total of three times. They had to come out the first time to test the water heater and see where that was going to take it. Then they had to replace the part. I ended up having my water heater replaced.

    I've had American Home Shield since I first bought the house a few months ago. The actual old seller bought the home warranty for us and I would tell others to get one. I spent however much my payment was to get that plumber out here and I got a brand new water heater out of it. The home warranty makes owning a home for the first time extremely easy.

    I called two plumbers for a different reason but I told them that the water wasn’t coming out of my faucet at full force. Both of them gave the same answer, to just soak it and seal it all. But I thought it wasn’t that and I kept thinking that there was some debris from the pipe going through and clogging it. I started investigating and I even took a picture under there and sent it to one of the plumbers. I had a sneaking suspicion of what it could be and although they kept suggesting that I might have to get a new faucet, I could tell that was not the problem.

    Then it dawned on me that I have American Home Shield and I thought they can check it if it is the faucet and if they can't fix it, they're good about replacing. So the guy came out and I was right with my suspicion. It was funny because he came in and he wasn't acting like a typical plumber. He was really good in trying to figure out the cause and effect, and he was nice too. He was able to pinpoint the issue with the water restrictor. It’s like a gasket that’s hard plastic, and he just had to hit it and knock whatever debris was stuck in there. We have copper pipes and eventually that copper turns green then it would break off. And after he cleared the lines, the medium and the hot water come out fine. But the cold water still doesn't. Nonetheless, I'm seriously happy to have what I had. At that point I was happy to not do my dishes in my bathtub, and we'll continue with assessing the situation as I move forward.

    I would totally recommend American Home Shield to any homeowner. Anytime I’ve called anybody from American Home Shield, they’ve been really good. And I think the company itself is good. Their monthly charge, put in a tranche, is not that much so I'd rather have that and call somebody out and no matter what, it's going to be their flat fee. I’m not going to be paying thousands more for somebody trying to scam me.

    Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has always been easy and they always take good care of us. I've tried doing it online but it irritates me because I'm not tech savvy so I just talk to a person. The reps have been great and they always do a great job for us. Everybody that they've sent has been fine with the exception of anyone out from Sears. I don’t like the Sears people and I don’t like them to come. I've had negative interactions with them almost every single time without fail. My air conditioning system was repaired recently and it has been perfectly fine ever since. The tech was well-mannered, clean and punctual. He did exactly what he needed to do and I couldn't be happier.     We got signed up with AHS through our realtor. When we bought our house, part of the deal from our buying agent was that he was going to give us a home warranty. He usually went with a different provider and he had been passing American Home Shield with one of the local vendors. He opted to give them a try with us just to see if we like it or not.

    We had a dryer that we had when we moved in to the house and was working fine. All of a sudden, we came in to the house and the dryer had an error message that said “PF.” My wife tried to turn it on and it didn’t quite catch fire but it started smoking so we unplugged it. It turned out one of the circuit boards had gone bad and burned up. They had an appliance repair company come out and diagnosed it and then replaced the board. We went about a week without our dryer which was hard on my wife. She does three loads of laundry because we got two little kids. The inability to dry anything was difficult but luckily, the weather was good so she was able to hang some of it out to dry.

    Submitting the claim was pretty straightforward. You just go to their website and submit the claim saying what the item is. The only thing that’s missing is that it doesn’t really ask what the problem is. Somebody just schedules someone to come out without details so when the repair people come out, they don’t know what exactly it is for until they show what type of device it is. Otherwise, it takes a couple of minutes.

    Right now I’m about fifty-fifty with AHS. Most of the time they cover everything and it’s no problem. Then every once in a while, I’ll submit something that I’m sure they’re going to cover and then they find some loophole and don’t cover it. Some of those loopholes aren’t obvious from reading through the contract. The most recent one was, we have a whole house fan in our house and we specifically added extra coverage for the whole house fan which had stopped working. They denied the claim because the part that stopped working was the controller board which allows you to turn it on and off. But because it’s a wireless controller board, they consider it as a separate, home automation device which they don’t cover.

    Even though it was part of the unit and it was that way when we bought the house, it’s not covered. We paid $75 to have someone come out and tell us, “Here’s what’s wrong,” which we knew what the problem was but it’s not covered. It's something that would have been free if we had just hired the company electrician to come out and look at it first. If you were buying an older house or had a lot of older appliances, the warranty is worth the cost. We recently renewed our contract with them because we’ve had enough repairs done and we’re in a bit older house with some more expensive appliances. We opted to keep the contract because we got enough benefit out of it to make it worthwhile so far.

    I had my microwave repaired recently because it was not opening. This was my fourth claim to American Home Shield and each time, the process of submitting the claim has been very efficient. American Home Shield sent a very good contractor. They came from Topeka. They were on time and they were nice people that I have kept their card on the fridge for things. The push button was broken, so they changed the whole panel. Even if something is not covered, I will be using them. Everything is great and that's why I renewed my contract with American Home Shield. It's a wonderful service and very affordable. With AHS, I've got peace of mind.

    We were having a plumbing issue and the plumber that American Home Shield sent out thought that it was a condensation unit for my air conditioning. He didn't examine everything very well and he could have done a more thorough review of what was happening and made the determination instead of him walking away and saying he didn’t know and we’ll have to get someone else which AHS did. But they told me that that guy couldn't find the issue either so I ended up having to hire my own plumber to diagnose and fix it. It turned out that the p-trap for my shower was leaking and that's where the water was coming from.

    If the plumbers did the job and figured the issue sooner, I probably would have gotten that $1,000 that's covered for plumbing. I had to pay that out of my own pocket so the homeowner's insurance didn't help me for that purpose. They told me that they were going to bring in a leak specialist but they said it had to be pre-approved first. All of them coming over got nothing done. We also had someone come in and look at our washer. The guy replaced the rubber ring around the unit because we have a different motor but then he busted one of the pipes. He left and told us that we have to make another appointment to come back. So I was without a washer and we ended up buying our own. We wanted to get reimbursement on that part but AHS told us that they can't do that.

    I had to talk to a supervisor and I was told that they couldn't reimburse me the $20. It wasn't until a week later that somebody called me and told me to submit the receipt and that they'll pay me back for it. Had they done that in the beginning, I wouldn't have gone through so much headache. It was just a silly cord work that instead of them having to come back out it could have been fixed. I'm inclined to get a reimbursement on the home insurance policy.

    They've already inconvenienced me twice. And every single time they did that I'd have to miss work and wait for them. Also, I call in my claims because half the time when I do it online, something is wrong with their site. I put it in my login number and my password and then I wouldn't be able to get through. And then I called them about that and their system was down so I ended up going through the process of speaking to customer service and talking to them and then trying to deal with the issues. Three times out of those conversations I was ready to hang up. I was really upset.

    We renewed the contract with AHS this year based on a good experience for last year, although the calls made were for simple problems. After the renewal our refrigerator quit working, the service company they sent (prior payment of $100) told us that the main electronic board will need to be replaced. A week later they called us that the board was no longer made and they were notifying AHS to pay for a replacement refrigerator or cash value, as stipulated in their contract. It has been 3 weeks and AHS has not done anything! When we call they say they do not have the "diagnosis" from the service company, the service company tell us they notify them three times of the "diagnosis". So, it is a run around to avoid paying what the contract calls for. Will never take contract with them again!!!

    After posting this review I was contacted by a social media person. After discussing the situation she offered to include the cost of the duct work needed due to the part dimensions being different. It was a fair settlement. That left me responsible for the cost of the freon which I agree should not have been covered as it clearly states in the contract that they only cover $10 lb.

    I gave them a 4 because though it took a little effort to get there, they did do what I believe was a fair settlement. I have had my repairs done and all is well.

    I have had my home warranty close to two years. Last August my AC started acting up. I paid the $125 and a tech came out. He replaced a part but couldn't check for Freon leaks because he didn't have the right tools but he had topped it off. Fast forward to April 1 and my AC is not working again. AHS sends someone out who tells me there are 3 leaks and no freon. Frustrating as the cost for the freon is $800+ out of pocket and had they found the leaks last year when I had freon I wouldn't have had to pay that.

    Then I get a call... There is another $400 in charges for duct modifications that is also going to be out of pocket. I call the tech to ask about it and I'm told that the coil dimensions are different so they need to modify the ducts to make it fit. I think... No problem. I'm sure they will pay it. I call AHS assuming they mistakenly denied the coverage... After all I have duct coverage AND in order to complete the repair to the air conditioner which is also cover it's required.

    I call AHS and appeal only to be told that yes I have duct coverage but the duct wasn't broken. And yes I had AC coverage - but that didn't cover the ducts EVEN THOUGH THE MODIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED DUE TO PARTS NOT BEING AVAILABLE THAT MATCH THE ONES BEING REPLACED. It's funny that they take that stance - vs. looking at the verbiage that says if the parts are not available they will provide a replacement. They may be able to stand on the fine print of the contract but it certainly isn't the ethical thing to do. It became very clear the customer service person was not going to budge so I've filed a complaint with the BBB. We will see what happens. I will be cashing out for this repair and getting it done out of pocket AND cancelling my policy. In the meantime I will be paying $800+ out of pocket to replace freon that was lost due to an incorrect repair last August AND the actual repair of the unit.

    This used to be a great company but the past year it has greatly fallen short. Tonight I tried calling them, was on hold for 10 min and when it said, "We will now connect you," I was disconnected. I called back and was on hold for 15 min before I was disconnected. This has happened to me numerous other times. The online chat says someone is available but when you click on the chat link it always says no one is available. They never follow up to see if a repair was completed or care how your experience was. I filled out a scathing review about a claim that had not yet been completed and no one followed up with me about this, in fact on my account it was marked completed.

    They consider a broken hot water heater not an emergency and will let you go a week without hot water. They won't pay the plumbing company to come out after hours or on a weekend for this. The plumbing company they have made me use every time, even after they couldn't set an appt for days, because they said they accepted the job so basically they get it, has never felt my repair was a priority. It feels that since it is a warranty claim, I fall to the bottom of the list. Very disappointing to say the least. The last plumbing repair I had done was completed today, I filed the claim on 2/12/18. It was just for a broken hot water handle in my shower. Seriously unacceptable.

The guy that came out was very courteous. We had a question about something and we called. His employee, which happened to be his wife, was also very helpful. The repair improved our living as we use the appliances quite a bit. At one point, we had changed to another company because they were cheaper. We had a water heater go out and that company would not replace it. We wound up spending $750. We switched back immediately.     My most recent claim with American Home Shield was to fix a leaking faucet. The contractor was awful and the service was bad. The problem was not resolved. I had to call American Home Shield and complain about them. The contractor said they needed to order a part. There was a valve that was leaking inside the kitchen faucet. They said it would take three to five business days and I was okay with that. Nine days later, I called American Home Shield to say that I haven't heard from the contractor. They called the contractor while I was on hold. The contractor told them that they would be out in a week and a half to fix my leaking pipe under the sink. I've got water damage now and I cannot wait a week and a half. I told them that that was unacceptable. The contractors did state that they had tried to call me twice. I may or may not have gotten calls. However, no messages were left.

    American Home Shield said they were going to get back to me. There was some type of compensation that they could give me. They would pay me for what they would pay the contractor and no one has gotten back to me. In the meantime, I had to hire my own plumber and paid $350 to get the problem resolved. My first experience with American Home Shield was when a switch in my heater went out, and the contractor fixed the problem. The second and third claims were both plumbing issues. One was the garbage disposal, where the contractor put the garbage disposal in and didn’t install it properly. The water backed up into my dishwasher, and they came out two days later and resolved that issue. And this was the same plumbing contractor that messed up on this leaking faucet.

    A warranty is very valuable when moving into an older home and I have carried American Home Shield for three months now since we moved in. They work very quickly to get somebody here and they’ve been very easy to work with. I have a water heater that is not consistently heating water. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.     I had a problem with the dryer. When I called American Home Shield, I gave the description, and they told me that they would send an email or a text that would notify me of the company. They did that within the first few minutes after I had gotten off the phone. Then Hornet Appliance called and set up an appointment. They came out at the same time that they suggested they were coming out. They did a thorough examination of the dryer, but the part that was in need of repair was not on their truck. They ordered it and came back out and installed it. The two gentleman that came were both very kind, courteous, and polite.

    If I didn’t have American Home Shield and I had to choose a company to do repairs for me, I would go with Hornet.     About a month ago, the ceiling exhaust fan in the bathroom went out. Most times, I submit my claim to AHS by phone. I'm used to doing it on the old telephone, moreover, I really like talking to somebody. However, most times I've had to go through that automated thing. And sometimes, I've had to repeat my numbers but it usually worked out all right. The contractors came out and looked at the problem. They called American Home Shield and made sure that they could take care of it. The old fan burnt the plug up and there was no fixing it so they had to order a fan but it won’t fit. They had the exact size that would come out of the hole and put it right back in. It didn’t take a long time once they got the part. The repair made it a whole lot better in the bathroom. It was something one has to have in there.

    I would tell friends that AHS is like insurance for appliances. If stuff goes wrong then they have somebody dependable that will come and work on stuff. The fellow that worked on our equipment said that he deals with other companies and American Home Shield is the best one to deal with. We’ve been with AHS since 2001 and we’ve been well satisfied.     Our freezer started to get a little warmer than normal and the temperature started going up at 24, so I called American Home Shield to have somebody come out and look at it. The techs came out a week later and did a swift appliance repair and said that they can’t do it and that they were going to recommend somebody else. American Home Shield got another company, Premier Appliance, and they said that they had to replace the part, so they were going to order it. It took over a month to get the part in. They came out and they replaced it and then the freezer went down to cooling again. And then, a day or two later, it started to go back up again. The techs never showed back up again so I called and said that there was still a problem. So, American Home Shield sent out GE and now, not only is my freezer not working but my refrigerator is not working either as of this morning and all my food has gone bad. I'm very upset right now.

    I submitted the claim online and whenever I spoke to the American Home Shield representatives, they were nice and they tried to get help. It was the contractors that were not performing. My interactions with the contractors were fine, although they told me that they’re coming another week to finish their job, but that's not acceptable when you don't have a fridge or a freezer. GE left yesterday and I'm trying to get somebody back today. I left them a message and they said they'll call me back. They're trying to get somebody out and I was trying to escalate it prior to a week. American Home Shield needs to make sure that their repair people can do the job because I'm on the third person now and after four months, I haven't gotten anything resolved yet. I'm not happy at this point.

However, the first contractor they sent out did not even look to see what the problem was. He just said that it was going to have to be a new water heater and that he would submit the bids and that it would cost about $2,000.     When we call AHS, there's always a waiting time on the phone. We call because we want to talk to someone, we call the number to get the service. But we can never get a live person when we call in for the initial service. I’d like to get a live person then as opposed to they’ll say, “This is your confirmation number. We’re gonna send this person out.” And that's another thing, we don’t always want the people that they recommend. Once we’ve had a good experience with a place, we'd want them back but we don’t always get them back. And so we have to wait. They’ll say we'll have to wait 30 minutes or in some cases, longer than that. That’s the frustrating part. And we'd have to call them back several times to get it finally done. But they get it done eventually. It’s just a hassle.

    Our most recent claim with AHS was the injection pump and the little cartridge in the faucet in the upstairs bathroom. This time, the guy came in and there was some confusion. Maybe it was my bad because I learned that if I waited until I had the same kind of problem with more than one thing, then I could get it all done. I had to tell AHS that we had a problem with the faucet and the sump pump. They sent the guy out and he said he had it listed as a recall or callback so he couldn’t do anything.

    I had to call AHS back again so that we could have someone for the faucet and the injection pump. We had to wait a little bit of time for that. When the guy came back the second time, he fixed it right away. And then when the injection pump came, it wasn’t doing the same thing that I had complained about. He watched again and started it up again. So he came back and he put a new pump on and it was done. So it’s always like a second, a third or a fourth call. When we have a plumbing problem, it's just always a hassle with the plumbing stuff. Both of them finally got it together the last time though. Next time, I’ll have to call each time for an individual whenever it’s a specific thing.

    In the case of our furnace, we like our furnace people. We always have them do our annual stuff in the fall. They came out and they fixed it. But about a week or so later, the furnace wasn’t working so we called them back again. Their guy said we needed a control meter and it was gonna be $500 which I didn't want to pay for. I told him that we would call our insurance people. So we called AHS and when the guy came and looked at it, he said it was fine. It was some kind of a panel and he said it was not bad at all. It worked for a minute again and then we had to call him back. I think that was okay because he had to look at it.

    As for the other technicians we had, there was this one guy who was really good. We have all the appliances but we’re replacing them now with newer ones so he may not be able to even handle them. But there was a guy, Bill, and he had done a wonderful job with our appliances. He’d come in, he’d know what it was right away, and he’d take care of it. And then there was the garage door opener guy. He also always did a really good job. I was satisfied overall with AHS's service but I wish it could be where I could say, “Okay, let’s just get this done. I don’t have to call you back anymore.”

I never got it, so I called back about four days after asking what's going on because I need this repaired. They dropped the ball on whoever they called first to do my claim and I don’t understand how they even got my wife’s number because she’s not even on the policy. It's only me.     I've had to contact American Home Shield twice in the last several months. The most recent one was for my air conditioner and that ordeal went excellent. But the one before that was for my refrigerator and I battled with American Home Shield for that for six months. I was very unhappy about that. I submitted my claim online and my experience with that was good. The contractor was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.

    We went through the process of the technician coming out four times and installing parts. Then finally, AHS made the verdict to go ahead and send me a replacement. I was told that it would be three weeks before I got it. Then the next thing I knew, we were a month past. I called and they told me two more weeks. Another month passed so I called again and they told me another three weeks. But three months later, I finally called and asked them what was going on. That was when they told me that Sears lost my order, so they just sent me a check.

    I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my electric heat pump. It wasn’t heating so that got assigned to OSA Services. They called to schedule a visit. Those guys came out, replaced the relay and it started working again. The guys did a great job and it was all very seamless. However, my claim for the heating unit has been going on for about a month now. That one is an oil burner and it was making a noise. They assigned it to a different company so they had a guy come out and took a look at it. He said, "Well, I can fix but we basically need to rebuild it which means I have to take it away for a few days. It was right before Christmas. It's cold so why don’t I deal with it after." I said it was fine since the system was still working, it was just rattling and making a noise.

    Two weeks later, Christmas has passed. American Home Shield had to reschedule the appointment but the guy never showed up. So, the system is still making the noise. I just haven't had the chance to call AHS and figure out when they're coming out again to deal with it. So, if something wasn’t working, I would have been without heat for the past three weeks. Fortunately, the system is still working. It's just that there's something broken inside. In general, when things are working well, everything's fine. It's just that AHS's selection of contractors is hit or miss. Sometimes, they do a great job, sometimes, not so great. If something is broken, you should be able to order a part and put it in as opposed to having to take it out to rebuild it for a 20-year old unit.

    With American Home Shield, the experience varies by who your contractors are. Some of the contractors are great but some are not and that's part of their problem. There were two things I needed repaired in my most recent claim with American Home Shield. One was the dishwasher and they were able to find parts for this old machine fortunately, and the dryer. I submitted the claim over the phone and it worked fine. The contractor was good too. They did the two of them at the same time which was a saving for both us and AHS. The technician was a pleasant fellow and he did what he was supposed to do in a timely manner. I had never heard of the outfit before. It was Big 10 Appliance but that claim worked fine.

    But I had a major problem with the General Electric subcontractor and I went through all kinds of difficulty with them because of American Home Shield’s procedure. They require the contractor, after the problem is assessed, to make a phone call to them, advise them what the situation is and get the authority to handle it. That is fine but the problem is they have an inadequate number of people available to answer call-ins from the contractors. It was taking upwards of a half hour to get through to AHS and I’ve had contractors flat out say that they weren't going to spend 30 minutes of their time to do it. And even though I sent AHS a fax with the statement from the repairman as to what was wrong, they wouldn't do anything unless they got a call from the contractor. One person said the material could be faxed in but somebody else said that I couldn’t do it that way.

    The case dealt with my microwave. It began on January 13th of 2017 and it went on for about two months until finally, somebody from American Home Shield decided to go ahead with it. That person said that they would get this thing set up and covered. They eventually did and American Home Shield replaced the microwave. It was 30 years old and the parts weren’t around anymore. I went to Sears and bought a replacement. I sent that in and American Home Shield paid what they had to pay. It should not have been a big problem. But if I had not gotten involved in it and, by luck, found the right person, American Home Shield might still be resting out there.

    A few years ago, I had a problem with a water heater and the plumber I usually use wasn't around. I went through American Home Shield and they paid for what they had to pay but the contractor they sent out charged a hell of a lot. The cost to replace the water heater was about $800 but I ended up paying another $800 for some things they had to do. Some things were okay but the town inspector wouldn't approve the way it was installed. They had to have somebody else come out and straighten it out. After the technician put it in, it shut off late in the afternoon and when I called in, they said they couldn’t get a hold of their technician and there was nothing they could do until Monday. Fortunately, we found the address of the manufacturer and I called them. They told me how to start it up again.

    I submitted the claim for my washing machine to American Home Shield online. Then someone called from the appliance place. The technician's people skills were a bit lacking but he wasn't rude. Plus he got the job done. Everything went pretty much like it should've. But I think the deductible should be prorated based on the type of service. I can understand whether it's major or minor, you're paying a flat $70 fee. But how much would that service cost apart from that? But it's a very minor gripe. Everything has been a lot easier.     I've been in this house for four months and this is the first time I've ever had AHS. When my faucet was leaking in four places, I made my claim online then I talked to them in person. A plumber came and acted like he didn't have to look and fix it. At the same time the plumber was out here, AHS called and said that I had the option to ask for money instead and buy my own faucet. Since the plumber said that he wasn't going to fix it, I opted for the money but I never got it. I haven't bought anything and I've been waiting for the check to come. I don't understand why they could not fix the faucet that I had or had gone out and bought me a faucet and came back with it. I've been very satisfied with AHS until this point.     My experience with American Home Shield was not good at all. I filed a claim online and their website was okay. The first people that AHS sent came out seven times for different reasons, either diagnosing or putting a part in the refrigerator. They thought that was it and they told American Home Shield that they could not fix it. Then, American Home Shield sent me an email of the new company that came out. The new company came out one time to work on the refrigerator and they got it diagnosed right, got the part, then came back out as soon as the part came in and fixed right away.

    It took two months to do it as well as two months without my refrigerator and I was not happy. If I can't get anything from AHS to compensate for me for all the time and the aggravation I went through, I probably won’t renew come October. But if they want to compensate me and make me happy, then I'll continue to stay because I've been with AHS for a long time now and this was the first time this has happened. Also, I never got a call from anybody from American Home Shield apologizing or saying anything at all.

    My experience with American Home Shield was outstanding. I had a problem with my refrigerator. They said it was the motor for the fan in the freezer and it was just shutting down the whole refrigerator. So it stopped cooling our freezer. I submitted a claim online.     Having American Home Shield has been worth it for me. I had a plumbing issue inside the house and I called AHS to submit a claim. I got through their automated service, told them what my problem was, and I got contacted by text immediately. Within an hour, I got a phone call from the contractor, Lone Star. Then a plumber and a helper came out and they did an excellent job. If I didn't have AHS, they'd also be the plumbing company I would use. So, I was very satisfied. But I had two other claims that I was not happy with. I have a fireplace fan that's making noise and the guy who came out told me he fixed it. But within 30 minutes after he left, it was doing the same thing. I called him back and he said he'd try to get back. He also looked at my ceiling fan but we found out that it was not covered. That was fine, but I still need the fireplace fixed.

    I had dishwasher issues. I usually go online but for this issue, my husband called American Home Shield to put in the claim. One of the representatives hung up on me, but the rest of them have been awesome. The first contractor sent by AHS couldn’t figure out what the problem was, and they kept coming back and tried to fix different things. Then they decided they couldn’t fix it. So, American Home Shield sent GE out and GE decided they couldn’t fix it, so the dishwasher got replaced with a brand-new unit and it’s now more efficient. Whenever something comes up, AHS people do what they can and they go with what notes they got. I feel great about it. However, I’ve had a major issue when I had an air conditioner replaced a couple of years ago and every time, AHS sent out different companies and there was no history so the different companies did the same stuff over and over again.

    I had a leak under the double faucets in the second bathroom. My wife called American Home Shield but it took them 45 minutes to an hour. Still, when she got hold of a representative, their contractor was able to come out the next day. The two technicians who were sent did a good job. They had the leak come and go a couple of times to get the right parts but they did fine still. They had to do quite a bit of a change out. At the moment, everything is working.

    My water heater was leaking and it was replaced by American Home Shield approximately four years ago. It’s easier to submit claims online but I can never get anybody out from American Home Shield. I can be on for an hour before I even get to speak to a human. That’s a real pain in the ass and it's something I really hate about this company. When I submit a claim online I get an email. One gentleman came out and told me that the problem had been a burnt insulation where the thermostat had been burnt. He said the whole thing would have to be replaced and I was not going to be able to take a shower or have hot water until after the weekend and so he reported it.

    The company that came out and put the water heater had put a flexible hose on top instead of the usual copper, and they soldered it. This hose was on one side so I started getting wet in the family room on the carpet because the top thing had some kind of hole in it. The contractor replaced the female edge or coupler, and then he said that they had told American Home Shield that the top was messed up and it was just a total disaster. Then, Al, the guy from the other place, came in and checked the problem, and said it was the temperature. He took the insulation out and then said it was probably the thermostat so he went and got it. However, the thermostat didn’t need to be replaced, so I had hot water within an hour. The heater has been working fine.

    I wasn’t really happy with that company that came first because I’ve had them out here before and they’ve had situations where they told me I had roots in the septic system PVC pipe going from my hot bath downstairs upfront in my septic system. They ran through the thing and they got back and said I've got roots like a tampon, so I thought I was going to have it all dug up. I had this taken care of before and I’ve got an outside thing that they didn’t have to go through the house. They could take the top off the outside thing and do what they did as far as the thing they used to do. But they found out that the pipe didn’t have roots. There were a couple of times that this situation happened and American Home Shield didn’t do anything else. Finally, I got a friend of mine to come over a couple of times and he got the roots out. And the pipe hasn’t been clogged for two years now.

    I started out with American Home Shield on $50 for a month and I’m up to $60.99 now. Normally, I have them take out the money. They were doing it earlier in the thing and I get my Social Security check usually at least after 21st or earlier, the third Wednesday of every month. So I had to have them fix the work and have it done after the 21st and keep checking and they haven’t even taken that out.

    The pipe broke and I called American Home Shield and put in a work order. Then they gave me the name of the plumber. However, I was there a couple of days, and the plumber didn't call back, so I canceled. The AHS reps have been good. It was just that we had moved everything out. We were trying to leave, and I had water going everywhere. So I had to find somebody right away. The contractors that I've met before were good and. AHS send them so far away, such as Modesto and Stockton. That’s about an hour from where I was, so it takes time.

    I suggest that AHS should find somebody local, so it doesn’t take so long to get somebody out because everybody is busy. They have an hour travel time to come up. So I'm down in the valley now. I'm in my antique and not up there anymore. But that’s what I would suggest, but I've been very satisfied with them. It's a very good program. When I first joined AHS, I had to take what they offered, but now I can pick what items I need so that’s good. I'm satisfied with AHS.

    Dealing with this company is one of the most aggravating and frustrating experiences of my life. I am not the homeowner, but, I am a concerned friend who is helping a disabled woman to get her appliances fixed. What should be an easy task has evolved into a terrible experience based on the fact that this company has insufficient capacity to deal with its customers to finalize a project. I have called this company for four (4) days simply to finalize the order of a replacement dishwasher and cannot get past their answering service. When I ask for the number for a supervisor, no one knows the number for a supervisor. I have no hopes of getting a call back after 4 days of waiting.

    Sadly, the dishwasher they want to replace her unit with is not the same brand or quality of the one she had. So even if and when they do their job to replace the dishwasher, it will be with a substandard product. If you are considering a home warranty company, look elsewhere... Stay completely away from American Home Shield. Read the contract thoroughly and be sure to check the internet for complaints!

    The ceiling fan went out and I filed a claim online to American Home Shield since it was much quicker. I’m not somebody who navigates things very easily but I didn't have any trouble with their website at all. You just go online, press your button and usually, they would send back within an hour the name of who was coming and their phone number so that if you want to get on it faster, you can call the contractor and they can come right out. Doing it over the phone is a pain and you’re on hold forever. It’s horrible.

    I’ve had really good contractors and when I have things that aren’t covered, I generally go back to those people. I’ve done it for the pool, the vacuum, the oven and the stove. Four years ago, I had a very frustrating time with a company but once we got out of that circle, it was fine. That was a long time ago and things have dramatically improved since then. I would tell friends that AHS is beneficial. We have a number of high-end things and if they go out, it’s not tremendously beneficial simply because you don’t get coverage for that. They won’t replace it with the same quality that we have and we pay the extra to get there. But overall, for the service that we get and how quickly they respond, I would tell them to use AHS.

    We have American Home Shield for one year now. I had a different home warranty company when I bought the house and I kept that one. Then when the contract was coming to an end, American Home Shield called. Their names are very similar and I thought it was the same company so I went with American Home Shield. My most recent claim was for electrical work and lights. I submitted my claim online and it was easy. They only want you to do it online so they don’t pick up the other lines. If you call in, you have to wait for 45 minutes. We changed the bulbs. It was inconvenient. It started flashing randomly so I don’t think that they always get power. The people who came out to work were really nice but they were not allowed to fix it unless they saw it happening. Since they’ve checked it, it flashed at least 15 or 20 times. I wouldn’t use American Home Shield again.

    We had to have American Home Shield come out because our oven was not working correctly. It was shutting down when we were cooking. It was very easy to submit the claim online. I just clicked some boxes and it took me very few minutes. And then, I followed up with them about a time for the appointment, and they were on time and resolved our issue. The contractor was professional and courteous. He was interested in our issue and resolving it for us. He found it was a relatively minor problem that he had to take some wires in the oven that might have been loose for a long time. Ever since he visited our oven was behaving the way it should be. We're glad we have the service in place. It did what we had hoped it would do in terms of resolving the issue that we have simply and quickly.

    The dishwasher was not turning on and we had to repair it. I submitted the claim online and it's easier and faster. However, the contractor was rude. I came in and talked to him and he totally ignored me. I asked him if everything was going okay and he didn’t say anything. He just said, “I'm done.” I asked him what was wrong and he just left. He showed up in his personal vehicle, no uniform, and was late. Nowadays, he could just be a random person up the street. I didn’t know who he was when he pulled in my driveway. Other than that, he fixed my dishwasher. He kept tripping the breaker, so he had to come back out. I thought there was something going on with the machine, so I called AHS and told them that I didn't want that company back out here. They're like, "If you want to fix it, that’s what we have to do.” I didn’t like that at all. I'll probably find another company to go with.

    I dislike the contractor that AHS sent who came out for the microwave. There’s still damage and they didn’t fix the part that was broken. They did the superglue $2 part items and the microwave went slower than it used to, in the circle where it rotates. It was up to the way it should be. It should have been replaced but I didn’t know why they just did that and then walked away. But all the other claims I’ve done were really, really sufficient. The air-conditioning people, the plumbing people and everybody did a great job. I will recommend AHS to a friend.

    The freezer would make a train sound so I went online, put the order with American Home Shield to have someone come out and look at it. I paid online, and they gave me the company’s number. They said they would probably get in touch with me within 24 to 48 hours. I submitted the claim late in the evening, almost 5:00. They didn’t get the request until the next day, so it was fine.

    I had a class, so I asked maybe the owner of the company if the contractor could call me on his way and so I wouldn't be late for school. He called me about 30 minutes before he was coming and he got here and introduced himself. Before the contractor came, he asked me if I would take care of the freezer, and I had that ready for him. I showed him where the kitchen was and where the thing was. He had all his equipment, got in and stayed there. Then on his way out, I signed some paperwork. He helped me pull the refrigerator back, so I could sweep behind it. He was very helpful and did great.

    I put everything back in the freezer, and it has been fine. He showed to me the whole thing was cracked and so I have a new motor and fan. I haven't had any trouble since he left and it hasn’t made a noise since he replaced the old one. Then I called the contractor 'cause I didn’t receive a receipt, but he said that they would mail it. Yet I still haven't received anything from them. I have school and the kids are in school too, so I just let all things fly. I have the invoice from my bank and stuff, but they didn’t have a copy. I thought that was a little odd.

    I'm happy with American Home Shield. We had them in Kentucky since the seller of the first home we bought gave us a year of warranty. So when we sold our home, we also gave a year of warranty. And we wanted to go with American Home Shield, but they went through another one because they were a little cheaper. When we got here in St. Louis, we called American Home Shield and got everything back because we enjoy having their coverage.

    When we were visiting St. Louis again and had just gotten home by 2:00 in the morning, I walked downstairs and there was a ton of water at the bottom step. The hot water heater had just burst so I came out and American Home Shield sent someone out who got there as soon as day broke and got everything replaced and had it vacuumed. So as long as they would cover it, that’s fine. And I told all my friends about them. Three days ago, I told my girlfriend a lot about the refrigerator and she may even look into it. Overall, I enjoy the service and I never had any trouble. I also never waited over two days, so I'm happy about that.

    The contractors sent for the water heater were both good and worked really well. They got here fast, looked at the water heater and got the water heater replacement approved by American Home Shield and then they came back out and replaced the water heater that was a continuous problem.     Everything has been good with American Home Shield. When I was having problems with the air conditioner, I called them to submit a claim and the rep I talked to was very professional, a very good listener, and treated me real well. They sent someone out in about two days but the first contractor who came out wasn’t very helpful. So, I called to complain about it and AHS sent a different contractor out. The second contractor was completely different. They were more understanding about the situation and explained everything to me that needed to be done. And I was a lot happy with them than I was with the first one. When they came, they checked out my AC and replaced the thermostat. Then they checked everything else and the AC has been working excellent since then.

    My dishwasher leaked, I went online to fill out a claim form and it was easy. The communication, as far as the text message and the call from the actual contractor was good. However, I had to put the call in twice for him to come out. The first time the contractor came, he looked at the dishwasher and tried to run it through a couple of cycles but couldn't get it to leak, so he tried to tell us that the type of soap we were using caused it to bubble up and it sounded like he was not talking factually. He left and we ran the dishwasher, thinking that everything was going to be fine but it leaked again. This time, it leaked through the ceiling down in one of the downstairs rooms. A place for a motherboard and something else had burned through and created a hole which was causing it to leak, not because of soap. Right now, we're waiting on a part.

    I've had three claims with American Home Shield so far and I typically go to their website to submit my claim as it is easier that way. The most recent one we submitted was for our air conditioning that was running but wasn’t blowing cold. I've had two contractors and claims on that issue. The first guy who was out here has obviously been doing his trade for a while but his presentation wasn’t professional. His demeanor left something to be desired but he got the job done.     I recently moved to the house late last year. In the hustle and bustle of everything, I failed to attempt to use the dishwasher beforehand. About a month before I filed the claim, I noticed it wasn’t working at all. I did what I could to look it and that's when I decided to file a claim. I had the American Home Shield warranty for a year with the house I purchased so that’s when it was filed. I made an online profile on the website and did it that way. It seemed to be the easiest. The website was straightforward. It sent me confirmation emails, and the only time I spoke with someone on the phone was from the appliance repair that American Home Shield outsourced to come to my house.

    The account for service rep who called and set the appointment was courteous. And then the technician was also courteous, on time and did a good job in explaining what was going to happen, the process to it, how it works and what it would take to fix it. He gave me a timeline because a part had to be ordered. It was all laid out very well. I have no complaints and everything has been going well since the repair.

    The seller of the house paid for the home warranty. For the price, it cut me right down. I’m planning on reopening my home warranty when it expires in January or February of next year. It takes a lot of worrying out of my head because being that I just bought the house, the last thing I want to do is spend a ton of money if something was to go wrong with it. I would tell my friends that American Home Shield is definitely worth the investment given the way expenses can pile up on a house if one thing did go wrong.

    AHS is awesome, they’re the best out there and they’re respectful. I appreciate them each and every day of my life. They have been a blessing to me. Their customer service is concerned, and I like the idea that they stopped having us pay the contractor, they pay them. I like the contractors that came out here and I like the fact AHS does a background check. They make sure that these contractors are respectful to us and if we don’t have priority when we call them, AHS will change the company out. They support their people, they support us and they’re appreciative of their clients.

    The plumber that American Home Shield sent here was awesome, on time and professional. He cleaned up and checked everything out. He went above and beyond, let the waters run and make sure the drains were clear. He checked his work and asked me if I wanted to come up under the house and take a look. Anybody that has a child that has asthma or any kind of medical need has to have AHS if they’re a homeowner because they support that. There was a time when my air-conditioner went out in my other house and AHS offered me to go to the hotel after a 72 hour period. That was awesome and I didn’t go but they also told me that if I wanted to buy fans, to just keep the receipts and they’d reimburse it. Anybody that has a home today, needs to have American Home Shield.

    I just sold my house and I paid for an AHS plan for the new people that would be coming in my house. That was how pleased I was with AHS and I wanted buyers to become comfortable when they come here. If I was going to buy another house, I would not do without American Home Shield. What I pay American Home Shield is nothing compared to what I would have to pay one contractor on their one visit. I've usually filed my claims by phone and it could be any hour of the night that I’ve called them and they’ve responded to me.

    My stove died and the guy fixed it supposedly but then I had to call him back because it was still doing the same thing. American Home Shield was wonderful there. They immediately gave me a stove that was comparable with the one I had. I was happy with what they chose and they delivered it. Everything was wonderful. In five years I had not had to put in a claim and I kept thinking every month that I was going to stop sending the money for nothing. But with that stove experience, I was completely thrilled. I thought they've changed.

    But two months later, my washing machine died. I had somebody come look at it first but I asked the local appliance service company, Big Kountry, to give me the first appointment in the morning. I am going through radiation for cancer and I have to go everyday at 11:00 then from radiation, I go to work. I was not asking much. They could give me whatever day they wanted. I just wanted them to give me the first appointment in the morning and they never would. They were being absolutely horrible and insensitive, and they won't work with me. I had begged them, sent them emails and talked to them on phone. But the guy showed up at 10:30 and I told him I had been waiting all morning and that I had to leave.

    He asked me how long I had and I said 10 minutes. He said he would check it for me in 10 minutes and that nobody had told him that he needed to come earlier. He told me my washer is a real good washer and that it's better than the one you buy nowadays. He said all I needed to do was change the transmission if I was gonna find it. So I was perfectly content with that. He was so helpful and he tried to get the parts for the transmission. He was very nice. But the place was not.

    I was sent an email saying that the part was going to get in on Saturday and that was wonderful. But the next thing I know is I can't get through to American Home Shield. Two times I was on the phone for two hours waiting for a customer representative to come to the phone and pick it up. That is not acceptable. Plus the phone died both times. I guess the limit of the battery on my cordless is two hours and I never got anybody to answer the phone. Another time, I called for an hour and a half at night, thinking it may be better. I called at 9:00 at night and at 10:30 I hung up my cell because I wanted to go to sleep. I had not been able to talk to anybody so I wrote a letter to the customer service manager in the headquarters. They should have gotten it already but I have not heard from them.

    Sometimes I feel like I was calling the wrong number and they have more than one number. The guy who called me about the stove stayed on the phone with me for an hour. He would show me pictures then I would go to the computer and see the pictures then we talked and decided. He was absolutely wonderful. In fact in the letter I wrote, I said, "Please find out his name and get him for me. I need him."

    Apparently they couldn't find the part and American Home Shield decided they have to replace the washer. I understand that the problem is that because it's an old washer. But Big Kountry could come and take out the transmission and with that model number, they would probably be able to get it. American Home Shield sent me an email about two weeks ago and they were offering me these rinky-dinky little washers. But I have said that I would take mine and if they just put the transmission, it would be cheaper. When they showed me the stove, I was thrilled. They were really doing a comparison and they gave me each and every one of the points that my stove had. But this time there was a picture there and if I don't like that one, which was smaller, rinkier, dinkier and junkier, then I have to pay $400 and they were still not even comparable. But that's not what I'm paying that insurance for. In the stove, I didn't have to pay one penny.

    I've been without a washer for six weeks now and I am just furious. I have had the worst month between the radiation and the weather. Plus I have to go to the laundromat to wash clothes and I'm 72 years old. I am not happy with American Home Shield. Sometimes I think they're Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and I have been trying to deal with the bad one the last couple of times.

    Our water heater was leaking so we called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I kept trying to do it automatically on the phone but I didn’t have my account set up, so it wouldn’t let me. And then, I had to go on chat and they told me what I needed to do. The rep knew exactly what needed to happen and once I did that, I went online and took care of it all. Once I was able to get my password for my account, I went on and did my request for a service order. And then, we had somebody come out.

    Massena Plumbing and Mechanical was our contractor and Mister Massena was the best person we’ve ever had to take care of our stuff. He’d been out more than once and it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, he comes out and he ensured everything was good to go. They had been out before and this time he could actually see it leaking. Since the repair, the performance of the heater has been great. Now, we have hot water on a regular basis and no leaks, so we’re good. Massena Plumbing and Mechanical is really good. In fact, if I could always have them come out to my house, I would. This is the second home that we’ve had with AHS. We had another house, we sold it and bought this one, so it’s probably been at least three years that we've had AHS. AHS is great and you don't have to worry about a large sum of money coming out of your pockets. You already know what it would cost you.

    I had American Home Shield on two houses and I had them for about 15 years. When the spring on the garage door broke, the guy told me that the warranty didn’t cover the spring. Then I told them it had to be fixed. Then I still had to pay the $75 charge just to have the guy come out. It would’ve cost the same thing if I just called that guy and have him come out and fix it.     Submitting the claim was easy. I just went online and put in the claim for our heater that wasn't working. However, it took about five weeks for the issue to be resolved. It was a nightmare. We had the contractor come out pretty quickly and they thought that it needed to be replaced. American Home Shield claimed that they never called in. But then, we talked to the company and they said that they've called in and they said it needed to be replaced. So American Home Shield fired them and asked for a second company to come out and looked at it, but we never heard from the second company. So then, they contacted a third company who came out and replaced the internal portion of the unit. It wasn't working so they ended up replacing the external portion of the unit.

    But even with the new unit, something seemed off. We still have questions about it. We just moved in June, so it's all new to us too. We have two different units and there was an addition put on the house 20 years ago and it services that area. So, it's with our whole kitchen area, bathroom, and upstairs. But it's all kind of open. I don't even know what our bill was because the other one just constantly runs and runs and runs, trying to make up for it.

    The communication should be hugely improved. Our Realtor got involved and got us in touch with like the local rep to try and get some answers. And even then, it still was weeks before things were resolved. I called numerous times and had to wait over 45 minutes each time I called. And I have three small kids, so I don't have time to just like sit around and be on the phone.

    I always call American Home Shield to submit my claims. And it has always been easy for me and the reps that I talked to have been very good. My most recent claim was for a big wet spot in the middle of my hallway. I cut the stinky carpet down and it hasn't leaked again, but I still don't know how it got there. I was not really happy with the contractor that came. I even tried to get another company to come out and apparently, they were the only company that does plumbing. In addition, my air conditioner had been serviced before and it was always people from out of state so, it would take them a long time to get here. American Home Shield used to use local people and I don't know why they don't do that anymore. It would take at least a few days and then, depending on what the problem is, it could take weeks to get it fixed. Other than that, I still appreciate American Home Shield.

They set up a date to come out and fix it. American Home Shield's reps were very helpful with pointing me to the right direction in what I needed to do. Their contractor was very nice, too. They were quick on getting the part in and getting it fixed. Now I have a freezer again. It's working perfectly and it has more freezer storage space.

    The heater went out in the house. I submitted the claim with AHS and they contacted me. It just took a couple of days. The contractor was very amicable and easy to work with. AHS ended up replacing the heater. I just started the system and AHS started out well for me. The home warranty is worth it so far. I look at it like they want $200 for two or three years to do the refrigerator. If anything goes bad, it covers everything in the house for $200 a year which is a fairly decent deal. I have a washer, a dryer and they had separate warranties that cost $150 a year for a couple of years. It seems quite a savings in that way so, I simply dropped those and started using AHS. The only issue I have is that the expense of having to replace a large ticket item was kind of hard because they paid for the item. But then, I didn’t really realize that it cost $3,000 to put it up there which is big savings, so I was happy with that. I recommended AHS to a couple of people.

And so, he climbed back down and left. We called again to try to find out what kind of walkway he wanted around our heat system and they told us. Then, my husband did that. The technician came back out a couple of weeks later. And we were without heat the whole time. He went up the attic and then said he fixed it. But, it didn't work the next day. We called somebody else on our own and the technician told us that there was no problem getting to it. He didn't even have to get up the stairs, much less put a walkway around it. He said that it needed this and that.

    We called AHS and we told them what it needed. They said that they weren't gonna do that. All they were gonna do is the one little thing which cost under $100 and it ended up costing us $600 because they had to replace something else. And that was probably the main thing why the heater wasn't working because it didn't work the first time after AHS did it. We asked AHS to reimburse us but they said they won't and they had to do their own steps first. We dropped them.

    We told them we have a local guy who could do it the next day and that we didn't have to wait for two weeks. They told us that they were going with the technician they have and he is out for two weeks. It was ridiculous. The guys came out here two days later, had the heating done and we haven't had any problems since. I was really happy with the guys who came out, and they fixed the issue for $600. We didn't get reimbursed by AHS but they paid $100 towards the $600.

    Another thing was when I spoke to the AHS reps over the phone, I was on hold with them for two hours, about five times trying to deal with them. I was soaking in the tub, doing my other stuff and talking to my husband. Then, one time after two hours, AHS said that they couldn’t get to my call and to call back later then they hung up. It was very bad. I would not recommend and I would discourage anyone thinking about American Home Shield. They were fine as long as nothing went wrong with our house. We pay them $46 a month right out of our checks every month. And as soon as we needed them, it was bad. We could have pocketed that $46 a month for four years and we could have paid for that easily. I’m dissatisfied with AHS all the way around.

    I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and I have two properties with the warranty. I recently had my AC repaired. The house was hot and it wouldn’t cool down. The contractor was good, but they lied to me about a few things. They were telling me they couldn't do the repair because of a certain reason. However, that reason didn't exist in the unit that I had. They were also trying to tell me they needed an extra $360 out of my pocket because they had to run new wiring and copper, but I knew the wiring and copper were sufficient. So, it was just a way for them to make a little money. Other than that, the communication has been really good, the emails have been informative enough and AHS has been great.     We never had water in the basement for three years then our basement gave out. Our sump pump had an issue and I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. They were really good. I called them at 4 o’clock and I cried telling them there were two inches of water in the basement. My husband and my daughter pumped out 250 gallons but it was futile. Two hours later, AHS got someone in and the same lady who started off with me called me back to ask if the contractor was here. I was super impressed. The contractor sent was great. He was a nice guy, well presented, and knew what he was doing.

    The sump pump was fixed in one appointment and it was running by 8 pm. The contractor used the old pump and he was able to get the pump to run enough to pump out the basement water and then swapped it out with a new pump really quick so that it wouldn’t get any higher than it did. The old pump continually ran until the water was out and then he put the new pump in, so he didn’t burn out my new pump. And by the time all the water was out, the old pump was no good and got totaled in the end.

    We’ve been with AHS for two years. We’re in our third year starting April 20th. It’s not cheap but then we’re covered for every single appliance and all the plumbing. It’s $625 a year but they gave me a $25 discount because I just set it up so they take it on April 20th of each year. The first time I called them out, we had to wait two days for them to get to us and I didn’t like waiting two days because we have people coming from England. We were above 80 degrees and that was like a wet flannel in our face. Our visitors aren’t used to an Indiana summer and I had to pressure AHS. It was bad but the guy that came out was great.

    We told our daughter to use AHS in her house that they’re renting out at the moment and she never got the discount because the guy said they could do it at the end as a referral. They also told her that she can’t and that she had to do it at the beginning. So I was kind of annoyed about that. That was why they gave me the additional discount for this year.

    When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield about my garbage disposal, the plumber did not get it right and it was leaking the first go-round. But then, he came the second time and that got it squared away. Everything has been good since. On the other hand, I had a claim where rainwater was dripping off in a certain way to where it's causing water damage to the plywood outside my house and underneath the vinyl siding. It was an old damage from the previous owner, and while they got it fixed, they did not correct the damage to the wood.

    And because it is connected to the flue, which is connected to a gas fireplace, I can't file a claim for that. Basically, once you get into the fine writing and you start looking through it, you realize they have this facade where the whole house is covered but then, the only things that are covered are the washer and dryer and the basic appliances and nothing else. And it is not worth the money paid and I wouldn’t have gotten it had I known because I work for a company where I can get garbage disposals and appliances at a fraction of the cost. I should have read all the fine prints. Other than that, they have a straightforward, user-friendly website.

    Honestly, I don’t know where to start. When I called Drain Doctors for the first time, the person who answered the phone “YO!” It was very unprofessional and I had no clue who I was calling, so I had to ask, “Did I call Drain Doctors?” And then he said "yes" and continued to talk to another person in the background before he came back to the phone and attempted to resolve my issue. That was only day one.

    Day two, Dwayne from Drain Doctors told me that someone would be coming the following day between 8:00 a.m-noon, then a couple hrs later after I had planned with my family and work to be there, another Drain Doctors representative called me and said that time won’t work because the vendor most likely won’t have the part ready for pickup. So I had to call American Home Shield in order for them to could contact the vendor. Then I had to contact Drain Doctors again and relay the information that I received from AHS regarding the vendor and again, and another unprofessional conversation with Drain Doctors.

    Long story somewhat short, the next day Drain Doctors comes out, the technician installed the unit and left. I tried the hot water and it never provided hot water. We let it run for 30 mins and it was still ice cold. I called the technician and explained that I have my sister, brother-in-law, and sister visiting from out of town and we have already been without hot water for three days and now we just spend over $1,000 on a new unit and it doesn’t work. He said that he was on his way and will check it out. Once again, not apologetic, not caring, and unprofessional. An hour later and he still didn’t show up. I called him again and same thing, he said he was on his way. This is the worst experience ever! American Home Shield appears to be a good company but they hire the lowest bidder for the job and they ARE BAD!

    American Home Shield sent out a technician from Accurate Appliance Repair Las Vegas, he removed the cabinet and had look inside then turned on the spin cycle and listened to the loud bumping noise and vibrating, of course the machine was empty at this time. He concluded that there was a problem with the transmission and didn't investigate any further. The tech replaced the cabinet and informed me that American Home Shield would not repair the problem as no fault was found. I phoned Home Shield and was informed the machine was still in working condition. No fault was found. In conclusion I think I would have been better off without the "Real estate home protection plan" and used the $500.00 cost of the policy and the $75.00 call out charge towards repairing the Whirlpool washer or buying a new model.

    Canceling a plan with them is near to impossible. They will never cancel your plan after you tell them to do so. They will take your request by phone or online but will refer you to a cancellation department that is never available to receive your calls and will never return calls. In the meantime they'll keep charging your credit card month after month. It does not matter how many times you call them to cancel the account or how many times you change your credit card number. They will keep your plan "active" charging you ad-infinitum. Once the new card is activated they will get the info from the financial institution issuing your card somehow and will charge you for all the months they did not receive payment. It doesn't matter you told them months before to cancel the policy. It's a scam.

    I called for repair of my air conditioning. AHC repaired with after-market parts and it never worked the same again. Despite repeated attempts to get AHC service techs to restore the performance of the air conditioning units, the units never worked right again. I ended up buying a new air conditioner.     I did a claim submission online for our cooktop range and it was fairly easy. However, I wasn’t sure if I would be charged before or not so, I tried to call and I was on hold for a very long time. I went ahead and processed it with my credit card, and then I saw that I wasn’t gonna be charged. I had the option. The contractors were in pretty quickly. I asked if they could show me what the issue was because they said it was something very simple. And the contractor did show me but he was a little reluctant.

    I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator and I had to do that twice. The first time, they chose a contractor and the contractor called and made an appointment. But then the contractor called back and said that they don't service our area, and I figured that was something that American Home Shield should have known. Then I thought that American Home Shield would call me and reschedule the service, but I ended up having to call them again to file another claim for my refrigerator.

    The second time, the contractor that American Home Shield chose to do the repair came out, but the contractor told me that there was nothing they could do because the part that was broken was under warranty with the manufacturer. But American Home Shield never called me and said anything, and they left me hanging there, so I was a little disappointed. The warranty pays for itself, but it's a bit annoying when the contractor comes out and tells me that there's nothing they can do and I still have to pay the service fee. So, American Home Shield has left me in the lurch twice. Another thing was, although I could make appointments online, I sat on the phone for over an hour trying to get in touch with American Home Shield and that was disappointing, so I just decided to give up.

    My doorbell went bad and I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. The company that they sent, Ryan Electric, checked everything out. I had their tech install the ring doorbell and that went smooth but he had to come back because one screw was loose. He came back right away and fixed it. The whole thing was fairly seamless, timely and trouble-free, which is what I like.

    I had one issue with a vendor that AHS used though.     I've been living in this home for about 10 months and I've used AHS services at least five times. Most recently, I made a claim with AHS for an electrician to go and take a look at some of our electrical outlets at my home. I submitted that claim online and afterward, I received a phone call from AHS that I would be contacted by the provider, who contacted me within 48 hours, set up the appointment, came and completed the work. It was seamless. The contractor was pleasant, punctual and knowledgeable. It was a simple task for him which was replacing an exterior outlet I have in the home. That was only one job for him. He checked multiple outlets which, I believed, were inoperable but they were fine. When he was done, I received a receipt and was billed subsequently afterward per the guidelines for AHS. They gave me the option online whether I wanted to pay immediately or within two days afterward.

    On the five instances in which I have used AHS, I had one perplexing case here at my home where I received a huge water bill. This was back in about January timeframe. And we had AHS sent out a service technician to go and try to troubleshoot and detect where the leak was coming from our home, but they never were able to go and determine it. But from that month, I had never received a high bill afterward. So, in my estimation, there was some other cause for that huge bill. I stayed in contact with AHS on the matter. We also had the local water authority representatives come out and do their due diligence as well.

    I also have had a number of faucets replaced here and they did that on two occasions. I had one kitchen faucet replaced and another time where they actually swapped out three faucets. One thing that occurred about five months ago was when they initially came to look at the faucets. They, for whatever reason, determined that they were not going to cover the replacement of the faucets themselves and I have to go and purchase my own faucets. They were claiming that the faucets were not working due to wear and tear. I do not know what it could have been but I just moved into the home months prior.

    As time passed and I was working with other matters in the house, we ended up purchasing three faucets to get swapped out and then we made the call back to AHS and told them that we've got these faucets. But we're in the new year and they weren’t able to reach back on the system. The tech came out and said that these faucets need to be swapped out, and they honored the warranty then. I was stuck with three faucets but that was fine. They did a good job swapping them out, but I had hoped that they should have been able to go and cover those faucets initially and not having me have to go through them. That was the only thing that could have been improved.

    But other than that, they usually were very professional, they didn’t leave a mess, they didn’t cause any more damage, and we haven't had any complaints with all the services that they provided. We had another technician come out and swapped out the keys because it was a rekeying that we requested since we were in a new home and we wanted to think on the security side. So, we've been taking advantage of everything that we could on the AHS and thus far, we're very satisfied. I'd tell others that if they were a homeowner, I'd highly recommend AHS. As a matter of fact, when I purchased the home, we paid a year upfront for the service.

    I had a claim when our water heater was not heating properly, but it ended up being really stupid on my part because it had been turned down. So it was an easy fix. I also had my stove fixed because one of the knobs wasn’t turning. The contractors we've had were good. They seemed like they knew what they were doing and they did a good and thorough job. American Home Shield does come and fix things so it’s good. But they also deny things and there’s no way to communicate. People need to beware. I usually submit claims online which is easier. I don't need to talk to anyone. But one of the things that I don’t like is that you can’t talk to anybody about anything. We had submitted claims ‘cause we’ve had problems with our ductwork for our furnace and they’ve denied them, saying that they’re not covered, but it says ductwork is covered on our coverage.

Then they'll send me an email right away that says who they contract with that would do the work. It took a little longer for them to come out for the refrigerator but that was more of my fault than theirs.

    I had them come out twice for the refrigerator. They thought they had the problem fixed, but then it was doing the same thing, so I called American Home Shield back and they put in a new claim. I didn't have to pay anything that second time. It was still covered because it was within the 60 days as stated in my contract. The same guy from the same company came out, looked at the problem and said that the refrigerator needed to be replaced. He said that American Home Shield would contact me but I hadn't heard anything in a couple of days, so I called American Home Shield. It was a super quick and easy phone call, and all I had to do was give them my claim number. They gave me a different phone number to call, and I called and gave the rep the model and the serial number of my current fridge. They pulled up an equivalent model and they sent the information to me in an email. I ordered my fridge online and I had the unit within a week.

    Also, I have an air conditioner on the roof of my two-story condo complex and I had to have it repaired last summer. The contractor said the unit needed to be replaced as there was a ton of hail damage. American Home Shield called me almost immediately and said they were not going to replace that and were also never going to pay for any repair unless I have it replaced. That is my only problem with American Home Shield. I understood why they wouldn't cover it because the damage was caused more by a storm than from a supposed maintenance issue. Now, I have to replace that AC on my own if I want to.

    We filed a claim with American Home Shield for the dryer. It was easy but we had wait forever on the line. They were busy so it was hard to get through. But the interactions with their reps have always been good. They either contact the contractor or tell us which repair folks they have contracted. Then the contractor usually calls us quickly. The rep who helped me was very positive. The contractor they sent was super nice and very knowledgeable. He knew the dryer like the palm of his hand so he was able to fix it very quickly. However, we've had a lot of trouble with our heating and air system. It has been crazy. The tech has been out 15 times for that and kept recommending that they have to replace the whole system but AHS refused to do it. They just do parts at a time and now they’ve sent someone different out. AHS has not been consistent.

    I had a water heater replacement and then a recirculation pump that was repaired. The whole process as well as submitting both those claims with American Home Shield was a hassle. First of all, there was an hour and a half wait time at minimum when I called them to discuss any problem that I had. And then they sent out companies who did substandard work and provided inadequate information. They tried to replace my 50 gallon water heater with a 30 gallon water heater. I called AHS again and that was another hour and a half to wait on hold. And then the company who came back out left the water heater and it took them a month to pick up the heater when they were supposed to pick it up in the beginning. The old water heater sat outside my house for a month.

    The next claim was a recirculation pump which sits next to my other water heater. And when they came out, they caused the problem with the shutoff valve. So now, I have very little hot water flow to half of my house, and I have no instant hot water to the other half of the house. That was a poor experience as well. They still have yet to fix that.

    I also had a refrigerator broken since September and it's now January. AHS kept contacting the contractor relations and then they were going to replace it. However, they don’t have a replacement and so, they’re going to do cash in lieu of that. But then, they can’t come up with the figure. The will go back to customer relations and then call me back. We’re talking about at least 20 different occasions of phone calls and 20 hours of waiting on hold. AHS doesn't want to step up and get things done. I've been with them since July and if I had known that the service is going to be like this, I would have stayed with Old Republic. The only thing that was smooth sailing was that one claim that we had with our dryer.

    Our freezer was not functioning well. The temperature would increase so we could not plug it in. Also, there would be ice at the back. We would like to take it apart and blow dry with a hairdryer and try to get all the ice melted. It was not a one-time fix and we did it twice already. So, we decided to use our insurance. I filed a claim using our account and we have been doing it online. It was easy and self-explanatory. The contractors that came out have all been great. But there was one where we submitted a trouble ticket for our disposal and nobody came out, which worked out great because no one ever confirmed and we were able to fix the disposal. The company that is repairing the dishwasher ordered the part but then the part is broken. It took the tech two hours to get it on and when he got it on, the dishwasher kept leaking. So he said, "I'll call you when we get another part," and I haven't heard from him since.     My most recent claim experience with American Home Shield was excellent. Everything was handled and they got it all done within a week so I was happy. There was a failure on the gas line and there was a leak. American Home Shield sent a plumber out, but he couldn't find the leak so they sent another for detection. But another company had to come out the next morning because the original company they sent out couldn't come out for four or five more days. And the guy fixed it and then he went and pulled the permit. He got the inspector out there the first thing in the morning. So, I had gas after going without gas for 48 hours and I was very happy.

    And then they sent a drywaller out toward the end of the week. He came all the way down from Edmond and he didn't realize that the ceiling was high so he came out first thing Monday morning and got it all patched up and I painted it that night. I'm really happy with it as well. The whole procedure took a week, but the actual leak was fixed within 24 hours and that was all inspected and put back together within 48 hours. American Home Shield was on the ball and has always stayed on top of things.

    There was a misunderstanding with me getting the warranty when I closed on the house I purchased. I also haven't received the paperwork for the policy so I called American Home Shield to find out where it was. At the same time, I had to call them about my dishwasher because it would not start. The lady I talked to told me that my policy had been sent out and that I should receive it in a couple of days. But she told me that they would take my claim because i was on file and I didn’t need to wait. That was amazing and I was pleasantly surprised. I expected to be told that since the paperwork would be arriving in a couple of days, I should just wait for it and call the right number. So submitting the claim was quick, smooth and easy.

    When the contractor came out, he explained who he was and the reason he came. I showed him the dishwasher and he went to work on it. It turned out to be a problem with the motherboard and control board. He called me over and explained what happened. Then, as he was repairing it, he noticed that a couple of wires were broken off. He explained to me that the dishwasher was an older model and that it has been discontinued. And if it gets broken in the future, it’ll be continued to be repaired until the parts couldn't be repaired or becomes unavailable. He told me that I would have to expect that eventually, it could get to a point where the dishwasher could not be repaired anymore and would have to be replaced. He was very professional in warning me in advance about that.

    He had the job done quickly within 30 minutes and he was in and out of the house in less than 45 minutes. I told him that I needed to sign something but he said that I didn't as he already notified the warranty company and bid me to have a nice day. Since the repair, I had no problems and the dishwasher has been doing great.

    Compared to the warranty company I had in my previous home that flooded, American Home Shield spent very little time getting the work done. Also, the processing with the other company involved a lot of operators and my experience with AHS was much more pleasant. I would recommend them and continue to renew my contract each year while I have the home. I would tell my friends that American Home Shiled took care of my first claim and that they should try them out for themselves. They'd like AHS.

    I needed to have my doorbell replaced. I called American Home Shield and talked to a person and told him what the problem was. He gave me the contractor’s number, the work order number and told me who the person was that would be coming out. It was really easy for me to do. The tech told us what time he would be here and he was 10 minutes early. He was very professional and courteous. He was only here about 15 minutes as the only thing he had to do was replace the actual button that you push on the outside and he did something with the actual doorbell itself and it started working.

    Before we got the doorbell fixed, my wife would have to sit here with the door open.     American Home Shield’s process when submitting a claim works great. I can use the online thing any time of the day and can check the status online and what's going on. It works and it’s up to the modern standards. Most of the things happen online and I can keep an eye on the status. I don’t mind doing phone calls, but in some cases, the online system is more visual. There were some connection issues with the air conditioner recently and the electrician was able to get things aligned. He was very quick and professional. It worked out great and I was very satisfied.

    The microwave's door wouldn’t shut. The microwave wouldn’t be able to tell if its door was shut and it wouldn't start intermittently.     I had a plumbing issue with the washer and dryer. The shut-off valve was all rusted and leaking and the people that came to hook it up would not run the cycle through it because they didn’t want to turn that valve on. They said that if they turned it on, it could bust and rupture and they didn’t want to take the chance. So I called American Home Shield and it took almost an hour to get through.

    The plumber was very good and he explained everything to me. He looked at the valve, turned it on and it started leaking really bad. I told him that it needs to be replaced, but he said that he didn’t have that type of a valve system that was on there so he had to cut my pipes off for him to put on a tub faucet. And then he said that since it had to be modified, they wouldn't cover the expense so I had to pay out of pocket on that besides the $75 service charge. It only took him 15 minutes to pull it off and put the valve on and he charged me $225, but he let it go for $190 so he helped me out that way a bit.

    And then, on the electrical issue with the breaker, the contractor reset it and it was fine so they didn’t do anything. Of course, he had to come out for the service call. He said he couldn't do anything for the bedroom light, fan, and light that comes on at different hours. So, I wasn’t too happy with the service. I thought AHS should have covered the plumbing at least and they didn’t.

    In the patio, I had installed this aluminum wood cabinet system in between the rafters. It was leaking bad and so I'm going there and put some kind of a shield in since they'll rot up the roof there. I figured AHS isn't going to cover that either so I'm going to take care of that myself because I hate to charge a call and come look at it and then they're going tell me that it had nothing to do with them. I'm very dissatisfied with AHS's service and I'm seriously thinking that if something happens, I'm going to just have someone else fix it for me and hopefully, it won't be as much. I wouldn't recommend AHS to my friends because I wouldn't want them to go through the same experience that I had.

    Holy cow, what a scam. On Friday late afternoon, February 23, 2018, our furnace went out. It was a freezing night so we immediately contacted American Home Shield for help. The next day, they informed us that they were overbooked and so they authorized us to find our own vendor. The following Monday, we obtained a quote from the only vendor able to respond on short notice. The quote was submitted to AHS the following day.

    Once the quote was submitted AHS waited another three days and then told us they wanted a second opinion from a firm that is miles and miles away. Or in plain English, an hour drive and then another hour ferry boat ride. That firm, after a two-day delay, came out and confirmed the first opinion as to the condition of the furnace. Then after another delay, AHS informed us that they would install a furnace (of their choice within the range of specifications of our existing furnace.) When we ask, as they anticipated, if they had a cash-in-lieu of installation provision, their response was lightning fast. "Sure" they told us and here is the amount, $1,484.79, which is a fraction of the cost quoted by every other servers we approached.

    Every HVAC vendor in our county refused to deal with this company. Then, the vendor that rendered the second opinion told us that they deal with AHS as a means for obtaining additional business. In other words, we believe that they low-ball their labor quotes to AHS to obtain new customer's business. They then offered to send us a quote for a "much better" system that we would pay for out of our own pocket.

    Guess what, the quote was ($13,581.03) much, much, higher than any of the five other firms we approached for the same model inverter heat pump system. And that was without 8.9% sales tax or the $1400 out of pocket expenses we were told to pay to deal with electrical issues. By coincidence, the five quotes were obtained before the furnace went out. We had explored the option of a heat pump system and obtained quotes before rejecting that approach as impractical for this specific location. Those quotes were all in the $7,000 to $9,000 range.

    The lesson here is simple: AHS delays just enough (12 frigid days) to make an old couple desperate. They might have mentioned "their firm" right at the beginning, but did not even hint about that possibility. Their "second opinion" firm agrees to work at well below industry rates as a means to obtain much higher priced business at the back end. Then, AHS low-balls us with their designated firm and their furnace, setting the stage for us to accept a reduced cash out. Meanwhile, their designated firm offers to come in and install a system at a rate far higher than anyone else in the neighborhood.

    This all makes bait and switch look like child's play. AHS has no business operating in this marketplace. For a $620 policy and a $75 service fee, no one should seek this insurance if their appliances are more costly then a dishwasher. Because AHS is not going to come through in a timely fashion, if our experience is any indication. These are the tactics that give insurance a terrible reputation and we are frankly both very cold and very offended by their treatment of us. I spent 7.5 hours on the telephone over ten days trying to get simple answers to our questions. Simply pathetic!

    I've had American Home Shield for about 14 years and I've only had one claim on the Chicago property so far. It was for the toilet and the sink and the first guy that we had on the service order wouldn't call me back even though I called them four times. But the replacement person has been amazing. I'm waiting for the part for the sink and he texts me everything. I have never seen anybody do so much follow up in my life. The stuff now in Chicago has been good but Vegas has been a little irritating. Generally my experience with American Home Shield is that the staff doesn't know the policies. The Vegas property is a rental and they told my realtor that the faucet was not covered but I knew the faucet was. I told them I have the ultimate upgrade and they don't get it. Plus, I had to spend an hour trying to get through and battle with them, tell the realtor and then the realtor's got to call. It's ridiculous.

    If you have to call American Home Shield, you're going to be on the phone for at least an hour. You're on hold for 30 minutes at least then you get to talk to somebody. It's an ordeal and it's hard to be happy when you get put to the ringer constantly. Their customer service is not very good and they need to hire more people. But I like the basis of the home warranty. It is a good value if you know how to use the policy. I signed up my brother in Alabama and I've recommended it to people here.

    My washing machine has not worked since November. I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield by going online and leaving a message as to what is not working. I can hardly get a person on the line, so I don’t have a choice but to do it online. If I get a person on the line, I will hold for over an hour.     When our swimming pool thing got broken, I called American Home Shield and told them to come out and fix it. I also told them what exactly was going with it. I always call anything in that needs repairs. So they came out and said they can do the job. However, a specific thing on it was not covered under the policy. And it would have been nicer if they could have told us that over the phone when we were specific with them and we told them the issue, particularly the crack on it. They could have said they don't cover that, instead of sending somebody out and have anyone come out and tell us the same thing.

    After they said it wasn't covered, I called the company and told them what the contractors had told me. Also, I didn't feel that I needed to pay that copay because they should have told us that from the get-go. The representative from AHS offered a refund for the money we had already paid out and we're still waiting for it. This was a better experience than the last experience we had where they didn't cover something as well. And we told them right off the bat what it was and attempted them to give us the refund but they didn't. So I tipped on to get it to higher-ups and for whatever reason, they just negated that. I even told them that I don't understand why they would do that when they know it wasn't covered. They said it was my responsibility as a homeowner to check out our policy and read the fine print so I will know exactly what's covered and what isn't.

    I said to them that I thought all I had to do is pick up the phone and tell them what's going on and ask if it is covered or not, They told me that it was covered, it's recorded that it was covered but they didn't want to refund the money. So, we almost quit the company at that point in time, and we ended up not. We ended up staying with it.

    Another thing is that we have another property on the same block and it's already been two and a half months and they're trying to fix our refrigerator. It's been months of just waiting and I just wish they would have told me that I could buy a little tiny fridge for my mom. She's elderly and then I have a brother who is handicapped. The representative from AHS told me that I could buy a tiny fridge and then they can reimburse me up to $75. I wish they would have told us that a long time ago. I submitted the request for the $75, so hopefully, they'll refund that.

    Additionally, they came back out again recently and there's something wrong with the compressor still. So I called American Home Shield and told them the inconvenience is awful. Plus the oil from the refrigerator was so heavy and there was so much of it that it saturated the house. We had to open up the doors and everything. I asked them if there's anything they can do because I don't want them to come back out again and also put my mom and my brother through that experience.

    The representative double checked on it and called the company up and the company said the compressor's under warranty. She would have offered a cashout but then, they cannot do that because it's under warranty. So now, it's just a matter of waiting again and seeing how long it takes for them to come out. On the other hand, what we're going to do is as soon as they fix this refrigerator, I'm going to cancel both policies, on the two houses. Although the guys that came out were doing their job to the best of their ability. I've just been very gracious but I'm just tired and had enough.

    The heater wasn't turning on. I had a claim for it about four months before that and it came on and it stayed on for about 15 seconds, then it clicked off. This time, it didn't do anything. I filed the claim for it online and the contractors that they sent were pretty good and very professional. They came in and pretty much knew what the issue was. When they started troubleshooting the problem, they pulled out the fuse, got another fuse and put it in. As they were putting that second fuse in, it started arcing and it blew that fuse. So, they said that there were some wires that were rubbing. They took it off and got another fuse and put it back in. Everything was working fine as advertised. I had American Home Shield since around 2000 and I was always the one who waits for an operator. But this time, I did everything online and it was really quick. It was on a Sunday and I heard back from them, and the next day, Monday, the contractors were here.

    We filed our most recent claim with American Home Shield for a heater. Andy, the contractor, hasn’t shown up yet, and the heater still has a problem, so I’m waiting for him to contact me. Another issue that I’m trying to resolve is regarding a downdraft for a kitchen cooktop that I wanted to get installed. AHS already gave me the total part but no one seems to want to set it up, and I’m not getting much satisfaction with that issue. And every time I’ve had a guy out there, they said that they wouldn’t fix it and they wouldn’t do a replacement. My cooktop was damaged, so we’re cooking in this house with pins. I also had a Russian from Colorado Springs look at the cooktop and the downdraft, and he said he couldn't fix it as it was broken. And he didn’t want to come back and fix it because he took it apart.

    This cooktop is what affected us the most as it needs a bit of work, too. I was trying to get somebody I could count on and AHS gave me a name. I’m waiting for them to give me a callback and set it up. I’m trying at least to have the contractors come out and if they can’t fix it, American Home Shield should try and resolve it someway as that’s what they advertised. I’m not too happy with my experience with American Home Shield.

Then, the tech from Drain Masters came out and did a great job, and I was extremely happy with him. He got things working and left. We didn’t have any issues. I've always thought American Home Shield is a rip-off. I'm like a gambler who thinks I'm not going to need it, so I don’t use it. Probably wouldn’t have bought it except we weren’t too sure about the house, but it has completely changed my thinking on it. It's well worthwhile.     I've had the washer for 12 years when American Home Shield replaced it. There had been previous repairs on it. It started having problems with leakage, not spinning out, and getting the water out of it. I submitted a claim over the phone, which I prefer because I'd rather talk to someone. And, the claims rep handled everything very well. The service I had with the contractors was very good too.

    Every time I ever spoke with anyone, they just handle it right away and get on top of it. It was an inconvenience not to be able to use your washing machine. We have to go to a laundromat. The technicians decided that the replacement parts were going to be more expensive than what the washing machine was worth. So far, the replacement washing machine is working great.     I submitted a claim with American Home Shield regarding my oven. I did it online and navigating through their website was fine and easy. However, it took them about four days to finally get it to work the way it is supposed to. The first time the contractors came out, they fixed the igniter switch for the oven. A week later, I tried to use the boiler and it didn't work so they came back for that. But, they had trouble with that. The first tech ordered the part but the other tech came out and thought the first one didn't order it right. I had to call Sears several times then we finally got that ordered. The last tech who came the other day finally figured out that the first tech had wired it wrong and the part wasn't defective to begin with. But everything has been performing fine now. The warranty is valuable for certain things. I had a pipe break this winter but the warranty didn't work for that. But, I understand that it has its purpose and overall, it's a good value.

    I called American Home Shield on the 9th for a microwave claim. It is going to be a month and I still don’t have a workable microwave. It was a Friday, and they didn't tell me that it would take business days to get the problem corrected. I was assuming they would call me back on Saturday. Then the guy who did the initial visit just took a flashlight, looked at it and said, “Oh, I have this problem all the time.” He said that I needed a fuse and a new C-board so I was thinking he had the part in his car but he didn't. He said that he was going to submit my information to American Home Shield and send it right back. But he didn’t. I called them on Saturday but I couldn't get anybody. I called back Monday and American Home Shield told me that they didn't receive the information. So I called the company again and they said they mailed it out Friday. So then I called back to AHS and was a little irate. Then all of a sudden they found the information.

    They told me that they have to put the thing into a part where they have to send away for the part. That has never happened before. I always had a contractor that had the part in his car. So I didn't understand me sending away and getting a newer part. They said it would take between five and seven business days and they kept jumping me around from person to person. I felt like I was at city hall. Every time I talked to somebody different, I had to go through the whole process of telling my story over and over. I got to the point where I started writing things down from the different times I called. It was pathetic.

    Finally, the part came back between the 16th and 20th. Another guy brought the part in, put it in and made the microwave beep. But then he said that the microwave was going to have to be replaced. At that point, I was really upset because I had been without a microwave since the 9th of March. He said that I have to put a request in for AHS to order a new microwave, or that they can buy one and it would take between 7 to 10 days for AHS to refund our money. I said that I was already paying a service fee. Why would I go out here and spend money when they were supposed to supply it? That didn’t make sense to me so I said that I was not doing it.

    Over the last week, I've been having issues with American Home Shield calling me back. The person who’s supposed to get new appliances don't take in calls. They only call back. They said that they would call back within 24 to 48 hours but I told them that I work all day so I will not be available for them to be calling me in between those hours. I gave them a time in which they could call me and I also said that if they couldn't call me, then they should call my husband and I gave them his number. A lot of times, they called when I couldn't talk to them. Finally, somebody called me back. We just got the number of the microwave that we're going to use today. They gave us the date when they are supposed to come back and put the new microwave in and it would be April 10th.

    I asked them if there was anything they could do for me because I was not satisfied with my service. They said that I have to write a letter. They gave me the address so I could write to the corporation itself. The contractor wants to blame American Home Shield and American Home Shield wants to blame the contractor. Anybody wants to blame somebody, but in the end I'm the one who’s suffering. I work all the time and I have microwavable food so I can just come in and cook my food. But I can't even do that now. I have to turn my oven on to get something done.

    All I kept getting was, "Oh, I'm sorry. Is there anything else I can help you with?” I don’t need help with anything else. I need this problem resolved. I never could talk to a supervisor or anybody in charge either. It's like there’s no accountability. It would do them justice if they have contractors that can be depended on. They need contractors that have the parts available for people. If AHS is taking all the information down on a certain appliance that we're using, the contractors should already know what part to have and to have it ready on the double when they come back to the house. It shouldn't take more than a week. It used to be that way when the contractor took money upfront once they finished the job. But now, AHS takes the money off the credit card or they wait till after.

    Around the same time I submitted the claim for the microwave, I had a plumbing issue fixed. And because I was having so much problems with the microwave, I went in with the garbage disposal claim and did the lay work. I put the claim in over the phone and once they told me who the plumber was and it was someone I had used before, I called the plumber and made the appointment myself. The garbage disposal was dripping water so the plumber put a new part in, and he had the part in his car. So I don’t understand how American Home Shield has contractors that have parts and other contractors that don’t. I told American Home Shield to not give me the same contractor back that has to put the microwave in, although I have to use them now because they already took their service fee. But after that, I told them to take me off the list for this contractor.

    Our air conditioner wasn't working properly. I called American Home Shield, which was my first time calling them out since I had them. I told them what was going on and they sent a technician out. The technician called me 30 minutes prior to ask if it was a good time to come out and check. He came, looked at the AC and found the problem. He told me what was going on with the unit and what he needed to do to make it work properly. One of the fans was busted so they had to replace that and the heater works fine now. The temperatures outside weren’t such that it was a major issue and the contractor got there within three days.     I had work done with AHS and they have all been good. But I couldn't get service when I needed it and I had to wait for three to five days because of where I live. It's my choice where I live but I still think AHS could do a better job in sending somebody out within 24 hours versus 72 hours. I usually call in and I tell them what my issue is, then they find somebody. But sometimes that contractor couldn't see me until they were out here doing other jobs because they didn't want to come here. I'm about 20 minutes away from the city and they didn't want to make that just one trip. Then AHS would tell me that that was my only choice if I wanted to use them.

    Also, I was never told that I didn't have a water softener coverage. I was supposed to read the contract thoroughly and I knew it was part of signing it, but I assumed that would have been covered. When I purchased this house three years ago, I wanted to make sure I had something just in case because it's an older house for 20 years old. When I got the paperwork from AHS, there were so many fine lines in them. The rep went over everything with me on the contract but I didn’t feel like she was doing her job. So, I went and got my own coverage for the water softener.

    Another issue I have with AHS is that sometimes when I call something in, they'll tell me I don't have enough warranty. That's impossible and I was never notified of anything. When I had issues in the past about getting a straight answer and knowing what was going on, I'd say, "Okay, thank you" and I'd hang up. When I called again, they'd say that my contract was all good. I came to find out later, too, that there are a lot of places that AHS doesn't cover either. It’s like a give and take. When I had to get my radiant heat fixed during Christmas, it took me two to three weeks to get it fixed. It didn't really bother me because I wasn't home. American Home Shield said they had some space heaters and they put them in the house for me. In the other house in San Antonio, I had a problem with the rubber that seals my dishwasher. I called AHS to fix it but it never got really fixed. Then, they turned around and said that it was not under warranty.

    Other than that, the contractors who made it out were good. When I first had an issue, they sent out Stuart Plumbing and they took care of the problem. The second time that I had an issue, AHS told me that Stuart Plumbing couldn't come out because they no longer had a contract with them. But when I called Stuart Plumbing, they said, "What are they talking about?" So sometimes, it seems like the people at AHS that answer the phone don't have very much knowledge. When I called AHS back, the rep I talked to said that Stuart Plumbing could come out and that they would send them whatever was needed so that they could accept the job. So, there was a lot of contradiction and it could be frustrating.

    Then, when I called AHS for the 3rd time, they told me that Stuart Plumbing couldn't come out, so they sent another company called Moreno to fix my water heater. Then, I found out from the 5th guy who came out for the same appliance when I had trouble later that the job wasn't done right through Moreno. I had an issue again after I had Moreno here and when I asked AHS for Stuart Plumbing, they told me that I didn’t have an option and that the contractor would be whoever they could get a hold of. But I didn't like everybody coming in my house and I would rather keep that same person or company coming, if possible, because I live up in the mountain. The last contractor that came out was Rex Plumbing and they were great. Now, everything has been taken care of.

    All in all, I just take AHS with a grain of salt. Eventually, if they continue having issues I'm sure I'll start looking elsewhere. But I tend to just let things go and keep on going back to American Home Shield. I've never used anybody else because, in the past, the house that we lived in was under a warranty of some sort, so warranties come out taking care of stuff. My father-in-law had AHS and he recently canceled the warranty on March 19th. But AHS billed him until the end of March. When he called them about it, they said that they bill throughout for the following month after canceling his contract.

    The garage door opener went bad and needed to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and they submitted the claim to whoever they deal with in the city here. American Home Shield gave me the contractor's phone number, and either he called me or I called him. Then it was taken care of from there without any problem. The contractor that came out was very good and the garage door has no problems now. We haven't had major issues, but there are a few things I wish they would cover that they don’t, though I can understand why. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield.
