My heater just stopped working and I called American Home Shield and the response was fast, within a day or so. The contractor got in my attic and he did his diagnostics, came back down and said that I had some circuit board that has gone bad. He told me to give him about a day and that he’ll give me call. Then, within a couple of hours, their office called me and said that the circuit board was no longer available and that they had to replace the whole unit. I told them no and that I needed to get a second opinion because this doesn't seem right, especially if they’re telling me that the company is gonna purchase for only a certain amount of money and I'll have to buy the rest. My baby was days old with no heater in the winter so I was really upset at that time.

I immediately called AHS customer support. I told the lady that I shouldn't have to replace my AC system and that I live in Houston, it's a big city, I'm pretty sure somebody has that part. Before I made the call, I did a little research on the internet and found hundreds of them online. The AHS lady was very compassionate because she just had a new baby too. She was very helpful and may have gone a little extra for me. That's why my heater got fixed within the time that it did. She said that she was going to call the contractor and see why they told me this.

Minutes later, the contractor called me and told me that they found the part that they needed and that they will be out the next day to fix the heater. So it was just a little bit of confusion. I work in customer service, so I understand things don't go always as planned. But I think at the end, you find a resolution for the customer. And if the customer is happy, then you did your job. And I think they did that for me.AHS is reliable and you can count on them to fix your issues. Home warranties don't have very good reputations but I've had a good experience with this company.

We had two air conditioners that we had a problem with, and American Home Shield assigned a company to take care of our air-conditioning systems. That company sent out nine separate technicians over a period of six weeks and each of the techs would come up with a different diagnosis. The technicians were coming as far as Savannah and commuting. Also, there was one who was coming from almost down in Florida and he had to spend five and a half hours getting here to change a valve and when he got here, he told me that we didn’t need to change the valve. But Randy, the last technician that came up, appeared to know what he was doing and we would finally get one of the two AC units corrected.

On the other AC unit, the contractor changed the thermostat twice but apparently, there was nothing wrong with the original thermostat that was taken off. That complete visit for the other AC unit from start to finish was terrible. I paid for a different company not aligned with AHS to finish that thermostat change-out and they also did something with the unit and it had been functioning properly now.

We also had one tankless water heater that had to be replaced. We have tankless water heaters in our house and two of them were Rheem. The contractor that AHS sent out brought a Rinnai which I didn’t have a problem with, but it had to be modified to align where the Rheem was and I had to pay an extra fee for a six-inch pipe that wouldn’t fit because the brand was different. Then when the contractor installed the new water heater, he said he couldn’t hook the temperature control up because he was not an electrician. Subsequent to that, I called the same company that worked on the air conditioner and they hooked it up and it came through the control at my expense, so now it’s working just fine. This was an awful experience.

I had American Home Shield since 1986 and I got very good service from them, but this experience was totally unsatisfactory for me. When I tried to get in touch with AHS to tell them what was going on about the nine technicians, I waited more than an hour before I could tell somebody what the problem was. American Home Shield is totally inefficient and I’m really considering discontinuing my service with them.

My garbage disposal broke and American Home Shield replaced it for me. I submitted the claim and it took almost a month for someone to come out. American Home Shield said that the plumbing company would be contacting me in 24 hours but they never did so I had to contact them, which irritated me. Then they said they couldn’t find my paperwork and when they did, it took another four days for them to come out. I was agitated about that. The guy who came was nice though. He replaced the garbage disposal really fast and he was out. Another issue was that I paid with a credit card. I submitted it with American Home Shield and they processed the card, and then we had to do it again. The person who lives with me paid for it the first time and I don’t know if it went through on their side, but I know for a fact it withdrew on my side when I went and submitted it.

I have had three claims with American Home Shield so far this year. One for my gas furnace, one for my refrigerator, and one for my plumbing issue. I called and I was able to get someone immediately for all three claims. The contractors were nice, knowledgeable, friendly and very good. For the gas furnace, they had to replace some motor. Without it, the AC would not work. The contractor came and repaired it. Then I paid the $125. The clog in my mainline was also resolved. The refrigerator is still in repair and they're trying to figure out what's wrong. I would recommend American Home Shield to friends.

I submitted a claim online when the air conditioner was not working and the website was fine. American Home Shield sent out a company that came out, looked at it and decided that we needed a part. It took a little over a week for the part to get in. Then they came out and installed the part, and the air conditioner appears to be working now. My only complaint is that they only had a time slot between 8:00 to noon or noon to 5:00. I've been with other companies that come out on two-hour time slots. I let American Home Shield know about this and they said that they would take that company off the list for me for the future. And although having American Home Shield is a little bit expensive, it is a good idea.

I’m a real estate agent and I help my clients order a home warranty. AHS is my favorite company. I had a very good experience with them recently too. The pool pump was leaking so I went online and made the claim. Doing it online is very easy but if I have some other questions, I call AHS. There, I have to connect to a system where someone can speak. The only thing is the phone waiting time is too long and that’s something they need to improve. But that aside, the people who came for the repair were very good and they fixed it very quickly. Everything has been okay since then.

I have not owned a home for years and when I bought this house, it came with one year of insurance from American Home Shield. I was thinking that this will be something that I probably won't be renewing. But they were able to sell me the policy showing me situations of work that had to be done, what a service call would cost, and all of the expenses that are associated with it. And that basically was everything that was covered just under the service fee that I paid. The first time I called in, I had a water leak in my house and I was panicking. The AHS woman I spoke with was very calm. It was at 8 o'clock in the morning and she understood the importance. She told me that she will immediately find somebody to get over here and sure enough, within about 25 minutes, I had a phone call that somebody was on the way.

Then, when the refrigerator was collecting water in one of the crisper drawers, I called them up and told them about it. We set up a day where the service tech could come out and take a look at it. Their reps were very helpful and courteous. They provided very good customer service, especially for this day and time. Today, you do everything online. If you need to service anything or need to schedule an appointment, they want you to go online. Being able to actually speak to somebody and have that interaction made it feel like it was a service request that was taken seriously. I also got asked questions like what the brand of the appliance was, so whenever the repair person came out, he already had an idea of what to expect once he got here.

The guy that fixed the refrigerator knew what he was doing and fixed everything up. He showed me the little piece and how typical it was that this was something with this particular model that tends to happen. And there was absolutely no mess of any kind after he left. The people that AHS has sent out have all been very knowledgeable, quick to get the work done, and have done a very good job. When my year is up, I will be renewing my policy because it's worth it.

Our dryer went out and it was something with the switch. Sometimes the heating element would work and sometimes, it wouldn’t. The whole switch was replaced and it works good now. The process of submitting the claim with American Home Shield worked great. I did it online and it was quick. I also got a call back from the worker really quick. The contractor that they sent out was very professional and very knowledgeable. He knew right away what the problem was and may have had experience with it. He had to order the part and it got shipped to our house, then we let him know when it came in. He rescheduled, came out, and put it on. I’ve always had good experience with American Home Shield. I had them for two houses and they did great for both. I appreciate it.

For a washing machine, I filed a claim with American Home Shield on the phone. It went smoothly with their agent. I gave them information and things were handled. I was then notified within 24 hours by the company AHS sent. The contractor who came was one of the better ones and my interactions with him were very nice. The machine was still operable but the tub was rusting, so it had a couple of stops on some items. He checked everything out and came back to replace the part in the washing machine. He unloaded the part out of the box, but there was a big dent in the side of the tub. It was damaged, so he took it back, reordered, and came out to took care of it for me.

Sometimes I forget that I have the coverage. I wanted to have my ducts cleaned and the person who was cleaning my ducts informed me that my air handler went out. It was a new handler that I ended up putting in even though I had American Home Shield because they couldn’t get me up and going in an ample amount of time. I was moving and they were giving me a 10-day frame just to get the part and I couldn’t live in that kind of condition. It was 95 degrees in Florida.

I went outside the box and ended up putting a whole new unit in, but the air handler has mold. They told me that I needed to put a UV light up there to keep the mold from going into the unit and in the works and that it should take care of everything for me. I freaked out that I had mold spores flying through my air. I went ahead and took care of it. That could have been covered by my Home Warranty, but I was in a situation and it was something that needed to be rectified. That’s where I have a problem with the warranty thing. You don’t know it until you’ve got a situation and then you have a long timeframe before things are taken care of. They get somebody out, but then they evaluate it and then it takes so many days just to happen.

He told me that I needed to change the bulb as it wasn't the right one. I had the UV light one. He said that all I needed to do was change the bulb. In addition, my oven display wasn’t working and someone came to remove the display part and they were going to fix it and bring it back to my house. Other than that, the representatives from AHS were able to answer all my questions and help me out. I was satisfied with the technician coming over to my house and fixing everything. There was a circuit that was not working and it kept tripping the breaker. I went out and checked the breaker, and then looked around but I couldn’t find anything. The guy that American Home Shield sent out came in and he checked it out. He found that one of the RF switches, the protection circuit breakers that we have in our house, was not working right. He fixed it and reset it. That cleared our problem, so I was very pleased with it. It took him 45 minutes roughly to get everything up and running. Submitting that claim with AHS went well and the person was helpful.

However, when the garbage disposal went out, AHS replaced it with a smaller unit. It makes noise but the other one that we had didn’t. That was about $15 to $25 difference to charge a bigger one than a small one. But I know what they do. The companies bag the things in bulk cheaper, and sometimes they take a less model or less manufacturer. What they did is that they put a smaller one in there, which I would say a cheaper model, and we weren't pleased with that.

The igniter switch on my furnace went out and when I noticed it, I called the gas company and had them come out. They also verified I had a leak in my house, so I had them replace that. They said, "You might wanna get somebody to come in and take care of it." So, they closed the valve and tagged it inoperable. I called American Home Shield and filed the claim, and they called me within 12 hours. It was all automated. You call and if you wish to file a claim, press whatever the number. And then you have to say a keyword like furnace or stove. For me, I said furnace. And then there's like, "Your claim is filed". They sent me a confirmation number and I wrote it down, and then they sent somebody out to my house the next day.

The tech was a little bit rude, but it wasn't a big deal to me. He got it fixed in 20 minutes, so that was okay. He turned the valve back on and got everything good to go. The repair has enabled my wife and my children to have heat during the colder nights. I recommend others to call and inquire about American Home Shield. If they're home owners, find out what the deals are and what deal best suits them, because it comes in handy.

Shortly after our American Home Shield policy came into effect the washing machine quit working and a couple of days later the dryer quit too, which was really ironic. I tried submitting a claim online twice and never got any kind of confirmation so I ended up calling it in and everything went smoothly. The contractor was nice and he was very good about tracking the part. The machine was only a couple of years but unfortunately Samsung doesn't make parts for it anymore and I went quite a long time without a washer which was a drag.

They couldn't get parts so AHS was going to buy me a new machine and I wanted it to use my base because it would have cost me a whole lot more to get a new one. I took the cash out and got another Samsung so I could use my original base. American Home Shield was wonderful and I already recommended them. I was with a different home warranty provider for 10 years and I'm very pleased with the switch I made. I recommend them.

The contractors American Home Shield were sending get our issues fixed, but most times, they have to come back which is an inconvenience to me since I work full time. There was a pipe for my radiant heat that was leaking and the plumber who was sent fixed three leaks. But then, a fourth leak started. They had to charge me more money because this one wasn't leaking that we knew of two weeks ago when the plumber was here. So, the plumber had to come back, shut my heat down one more time and spend four hours fixing another leak that could have been fixed before. The plumber also told me, "It wasn’t leaking then." I said, "It's 68 years old. It's corroded over. What do you think is going to happen? You fixed the leaks where the pressure was being relieved and now the pressure's going to come out on this one."

Then I also had the plumber today and he fixed a leaking faucet and unclogged a backed-up tub. But when I I turned the shower to rinse the tub down, another nozzle and the diverter were now leaking. They weren’t leaking when he was here. I called American Home Shield back to tell them about it and the plumber has to come back. The plumber said to me that when I shut the water off, it'll drip for a while and then eventually stops dripping. But it shouldn't take a minute to stop dripping. It's ridiculous. Then the leak we had in the basement was just a simple drip but after the plumber got here, it's now a bigger drip to the point where the bucket could get filled up within a day or two.

He said that he was going to wait until he was called back.

Shortly thereafter, another gentleman from another company came out. He was very professional and really tried to get it working. And when he couldn't, he ordered the part and came back. He took care of it and we've not had any problems since. It would have been traumatic to buy a new refrigerator to replace one that was less than four years old. Having AHS was a much better option. There might have been some slight aggravation and we had to constantly go out to buy ice, but overall, we were able to save some money. I would strongly urge friends to get AHS.

I contacted American Home Shield 2/25 and they have sent someone out 4 times and still not working correctly. They do not schedule appointments on weekends so have to stay home from work to let them in. This has caused 4 days of work missed and they refuse to refund the service call fee. They advertise 48 hours but it is bait and switch. The company they hire comes out then states they have to have American Home Shield order the part then they come back to install. I was trying to be reasonable and just ask for $75 service call because I give up and will go buy a new washer since they are dragging this out on purpose. Since they refused the refund I now want them to provide a new washer as they advertise.

We had an old refrigerator that kept leaking on the floor. American Home Shield replaced a part and it didn’t work, so they had to replace the refrigerator. And then the dishwasher started leaking on the floor and they had to replace a drainage part under the dishwasher. We called Home Shield to submit our claims and they set up the appointments. Their representative was excellent. And it took 24 to 48 hours for a technician to arrive and both appliances have been really good since the repair. Having the warranty on my properties has been excellent so far, so we’ve been very satisfied. I would tell my friends that they need to get one. It saves a lot of money especially when you buy a home.

I filed a claim online when the hose in my kitchen sink that is attached to the water faucet became loose. I've been with Home Shield for a while and everything was right there before me so all I had to do was click here and there. After that, they sent me via text the information on the vendor that would be contacting me. When the contractor arrived, he showed me his badge and identified himself. He was very welcoming and friendly. He took an assessment of what was going on then he made a phone call. He explained to me what was going on and told me that they would have to order the part. He also made sure that I had the number to contact them if I needed them before the part came in. After that they called me, came back out and everything was taken care of from there. I have recommended AHS to a couple of my family members.

I had a problem with the garbage disposal not working and the faucets in the guest bathroom were clogged or water wasn't flowing outright. And the hot water heater circulator pump wasn't keeping up with the hot water. The contractor came out promptly and he was able to fix the garbage disposal in the sink. I was really pleased with that. But with the hot water heater it was the circulator pump that kept the water flowing. He said it had a motor run out, so he would get it ordered and be back. I haven't heard from him since then and I called the plumber and American Home Shield but have not had a response back, and yet they closed the claim.

American Home Shield said they would follow-up with the plumber and get back with me but I still haven't heard from them since. I called them about two weeks ago. I've had American Home Shield before and it's worth having it. The recent problem is just an unusual occurrence and I wouldn't want to have to pay the deductible again just to dial back out here so it's a fluke thing and disappointing but I've not given up on them yet because the service in the past has been good.

I called to submit a claim to American Home Shield. The shower did not work for a month. Thank God we have other bathrooms as it was very inconvenient. However, the repair has not been completed. The plumber hit a big hole in the wall and he said American Home Shield is going to send somebody to fix it. They have yet to even call us to see when they're going to fix that. I know American Home Shield has become quite large because I hear the advertisements and I know a lot of people have picked them up. It's a good deal. However, it was very inconvenient and I think if they get larger, they have to be cognizant of the fact that they have to put more people on to be able to satisfy their customers.

I'm going to be calling them again because one of our toilets is leaking. I’m pretty happy with them. What I’m not happy about is that there’s no way to cancel a call. And then if you’re calling them, there are 30 people in front of you and I’m like whatever. I waited for the guy to call and I said, “No, I canceled.”

My son called American Home Shield then the contractor called me, set up an appointment and came by. My daughter dealt with the contractors and they came before she went to work. They checked what had to be done and then another person came out and fixed the air conditioner. They did what they had to do and they were nice about it. They were very polite and my daughter was happy with them. Everything is good now. American Home Shield is good and they keep their word. The contractor came out and he was nice, friendly, and took care of our issue. There was a little bit of inconvenience when they came out because my wife wasn't able to be at home right then. But since I work about 10 minutes from the house, I ran over to the house and unlocked the door for them then stayed there until my wife got home. The contractor put a new garbage disposal in so it all worked really well. So far, AHS has worked out good for us.

I was seeing water on the floor so, I thought I had a leak in the washer. But by the time I got to the basement, whatever water was in the sink has already drained down. I called AHS to submit the claim. They asked me what the problem was and they said they would have someone give me a call to set up the appointment. The contractor then called me and told me when they were coming.

The contractor came out and called me when he was draining the water out to show me that the water was backing up into the sink, and that was why the water was overflowing. The newer washer was pumping out water faster than the older washer did. There was nothing wrong with my washer and I needed a plumber instead. The water would just come up a bit and it would go down so, they snaked up one of the drains in the floor. The guy did what he had to do and showed me what was going on. They came back in to move the washer and the lines for me. The contractor was great.

Even with that, it wasn’t quite good enough, but I have another drain on that other side of the walls so, I ended up moving my washer from one side of the house to the other side, and that cost me $150. It had nothing to do with home warranty, but everything in our house that is covered by the home warranty has no problem. I don’t have a water backup right now and everything is flowing properly. It's a good thing to have AHS. It really helps you in your day-to-day living. You'll never know what's going on, and you may not have $400 to have a repair done. Our monthly fee is worth it for anything. I'd rather pay a small fee now than $3,000 out of my pocket at one time later. I would recommend AHS.

We had a pinhole leak in the ceiling in our dining room and we were under contract so it was stressful. When I originally called American Home Shield, the contractor said that they weren't gonna be able to come out until Friday and we were at the beginning of the week. We had our water shut off and I can't be a week without my water, so I called my realtor and she called the representative that she deals with directly and that lady was able to pull some strings and get a different plumber out. The tech repaired everything on the first visit. I just stepped out for a few minutes to go pick up dinner because I couldn't cook since we didn't have water, and by the time I came back, he was done, cleaned up his mess and already gone. That was really fast and painless, and that was awesome.

One confusing thing though was when I originally called in the issue and the AHS rep said that they will only fix the part of the drywall that the plumber cut out. I asked about all of the water damage that it caused because it was not just limited to that one little spot. We ended up calling out a drywaller. My husband is a contractor so we just had one of his guys come out to fix it. It was frustrating that AHS was only going to fix that one spot. If we're going to spend that much money on a home warranty, I would like for it to cover the entire damage. That would be the one thing that would hold me back from using a warranty again in the future. I was talking to a friend of mine in the neighborhood who kept having pinhole leaks and he said he was considering buying a home warranty. I told him to be cautious and to look into it.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for an extra refrigerator. I scheduled online. It’s not the most user-friendly website but it was okay. I’ve been with them for about two years and so I can navigate through it. Within 2 business days the tech came over. The tech have been here once before for another issue. He’s very amenable, describing what was going on and explained what was happening because I was there watching him. However, he didn't repair it because he said it was an extra refrigerator that we had in the garage and not our main refrigerator so it wasn’t under the warranty. I didn’t have it covered.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised that we’re back with American Home Shield because we had our refrigerator that was in our home. Our main refrigerator went out about probably seven to eight months ago and they sent the same company to come out. I even told them to not send that company back out to me because the first person they sent was incompetent. They fired him but we went probably a month and a half to two months without a major refrigerator.

If it had not been for the extra refrigerator we had in the garage, all they were going to do was compensate us with $40 to lease the refrigerator. Then they finally said my refrigerator cannot be repaired and they did not give us the full cost to purchase a new one. So we still have to come out of our pocket to buy a replacement refrigerator.

I was not happy with that service from the company at all. I wasn’t happy with the lengthy time it took them to get us a new refrigerator. The only reason why I went back with them again is because when I looked at other home warranty companies, everything showed up that American Home Shield was the highest and most reputable one out there. Also I sent American Home Shield a note and told them about the last experience I had before this recent one and I never heard anything back from them yet.

So he was going to request a new machine but AHS Company said no and that they will send someone else to get a second opinion on that machine. The last time the technician came out, he told me that he thinks he found the problem. So he was going to order one more part and then once he gets the part he would come back out and replace it again. We had them come out like five times. The second guy came out three times and he said that he could fix it by replacing a few parts. So, I'm waiting for the last part to come in so he can fix it. If they could fix it, that would be great.

The experience that I have with the AHS reps was good and very helpful. We had a good conversation as well. If anybody asks me about AHS, I would recommend them. I had an issue with one of the companies AHS sent me in the past. They were scheduled to do a job and they acted like they knew what they were doing and what the problem was, but they didn't follow-up with AHS. They were supposed to call them back and give them the information that they found regarding the problem I was having but nobody did. I waited week after week but there was no call and nobody knew anything about it. The contractors basically came to my house, collected the check, and nothing happened.

It ended up being a big problem because it was one of those plumbing things underground that was broken. AHS reimbursed me for that after weeks. I then told AHS that I didn't want them to send that company ever again to my house but for some reason, they still have them on file because they're the first people they offered me. I had to go back and tell them that they were the people I've had issues with before and I didn't want them. They then went back, put a note, logged them, and they gave my case to somebody else.

The new people they sent were good. The guy took his time to figure out what the problem was. I had several plumbing issues that day and one of them was the hot water not running upstairs and it was really cold outside. He changed the thermostat and told us that the water would be coming back. However, the water still wasn't hot, so something was unleveled. He went in and leveled that. He was very patient. He also checked my toilet and told me there was a problem with it. He tried to adjust it the best he could even though what was under it wasn't his problem. Overall, my experience with AHS has been good. The hold times on their phones, however, have been extremely long. But I'd recommend them.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield yesterday for the air conditioning unit, and it is still in the works. The contractors had to put Freon or refrigerant in it or and that costs $65 an ounce. But American Home Shield only picks up $10 or $5 an ounce, so I had to pay for all of that.

The first technician that came out said that I needed a new AC unit because the other one was old. But American Home Shield didn't want to do that as that would mean they would have to pay. So they got another guy to come out and he told me that it was Freon, and Freon is not covered by American Home Shield. That was great for American Home Shield, but it felt like those AC contractors were ripping me off, which they probably were. Nevertheless, everyone else has been great. You put in what you need and their reps call super fast and say who's coming and then the contractors show up. It was easy and the reps were very professional, kind, straightforward and our interaction was wonderful. When the house was built, the builders wired the switch the wrong way and the wire fell out. The contractor put a whole new switch in and then it worked. He was great and he diagnosed and fixed the issue in no time. It's perfect and since then, the fuse doesn't blow. The contractors of AHS are always professional and they are there when they say they are going to be. American Home Shield is good and we totally love them and the ease of their service. AHS is the best warranty company out there and I will tell my friends that they must go with it.

I had a problem with my refrigerator. The contractor that American Home Shield sent came, looked at it, went back, and said that they didn't cover those parts. The last time I asked a lady rep about the fluorescent lights, she said those fluorescent lights were not covered and that I had to buy them myself. The contractor would come and fix it for me and I would be covered. However, when he came he said I was not covered. I bought six of those lights for 20 bucks, and then the company couldn’t do it. He said if he comes back another time he will have to charge me another 75 bucks.

Last year somebody came to fix my toilet but he said they could not do it because the parts are not covered. There is no part covered, so why should I pay American Home Shield $47.50 a month? They said things have changed and the contract has changed. I have no problem with the people that came but I have a problem with the contract that they're not covering anything. And whenever I submitted a claim I called and it was extremely difficult to reach them. Sometimes they put me on hold and nobody would come and answer the phone. I canceled American Home Shield and decided that I'm going to transfer to somebody else. I would tell my friends to never go with American Home Shield. I didn’t have a good experience with this company.

American Home Shield has been pretty good the few times that I have used them. The technicians that they've sent out are polite and clean up after themselves. When the tap on our kitchen sink was broken, I called AHS and they changed it. It's a Moen and the technician had to order a part. They said that I would have to wait and I waited almost a week for it. After that, there was another incident when my washing machine stopped working. When I looked in the book, it said it was blocked and I tried to fix it myself, but I couldn't so I had to call AHS. The young man said he had to order a part and we had to wait a few days for that to come in because it's an LG, which he said doesn't break down often so they don't always have the parts on hand. He fixed it and it's been working fine ever since. AHS is a pretty good deal and I'm always trying to get people to sign up. If I didn't have them, I am sure I would have had to pay way more than the $75.

My neighbor told me about American Home Shield. I didn’t know anything about them and my neighbor said it saved them thousands of dollars. I took out the home warranty in June. I’ve only had it for not quite a year. The smoke detector had quit working. It was on wire and I wanted it fixed. The electrician was great. He saw the problem. All it needed was a new smoke detector. My husband is 84 and I’m 80 and we didn’t know what it needed. All that we knew was it didn’t work and we have others in the house that work except that one. Even after changing the battery, it did not work. We did not know that it needed to have a new one. The guy was very nice, polite, and helpful. We were very impressed with how he treated us.

However, when I went to the chat 'cause I’m 80 years old and I’m not familiar with all this technology stuff, on one of them said that the smoke detector was covered and the next time, they said it wasn't. I was very confused. I will never go to that chat line again. I would have to talk to a live person the next time. Besides, I have never used it before.

I asked what happens to the $100 I will pay upfront if the electrician comes out and they can’t fix it and I never got a clear answer. So they said that they would go ahead and have an electrician to call me which they did. He came out and did fix it. I asked how to pay for it and I was told that I do not pay them and it would probably be put on my monthly bill that is taken automatically out of my checking account. I’d go on each day and I would look but it never showed up. Then yesterday, I looked and it said it is past due in red letters. Do immediately, and if not, they could terminate the contract with me. That was not fair. I should have been notified. I was ready to pay it but I was never notified and that part really upset me about American Home Shield.

I assumed that it was going to be taken out when they take out the $49.08 each month which would be $149.08. When I went on and insisted to pay the $100, they didn’t want me to get my routing number on a check. They all already have it because it’s an ACH out of my bank account. And so, I gave that to her. Again, she said no. She needed it. I did go on today and it showed both the $49.08 and the $100 came out as of yesterday. Come June the 3rd is when the policy would be up and I did renew with AHS despite all of that. I would recommend them and I’ve told my daughter about it.

I know that there are some things they don’t cover and I was able to go online and print out the things that are covered. Our subdivision and other divisions around here are calling Nextdoor and each day you get things from what people had written in. There was someone who said to not go with a home warranty. Their AC, since it had a warranty on it, wasn’t covered and it was a waste of money. But I don’t feel that way because it does tell you that as long as your AC has a warranty, that it isn’t covered by the home warranty. When I went online and I saw if it was electrical like the smoke detector, it was covered, but then I’ve been told by the chat line that it wasn’t when I saw it in writing and that’s what I was confused about. For the refrigerator, washer, dishwasher and things like that, I’m glad I have the policy and I would recommend it to others.

I just moved here to Virginia from Florida and I signed up for American Home Shield. It looks like a new home thing, so in case there was something that an inspector didn’t catch, AHS would cover that. And then I found out that the gas stove wasn’t working, so I used AHS and they sent people out. One guy came and he said he couldn’t fix it. Then AHS sent somebody else out and he looked at it and he could figure out what was wrong but then when he came back he said that the parts needed for the stove are no longer made. He said that it was up to AHS to contact me and they would replace it or give me a certain amount of money towards purchasing a new one. But it’s been over a week and I haven’t heard anything from AHS, and they never contacted me.

I went a whole week and never heard back from the contractor too, so I called him to find out what was going on. He called back and apologized to me because he thought that AHS would have contacted me by this time. He said there was nothing he could do as he has already talked to AHS and they should be contacting me. So, the contractor gave me a number to call but I didn’t get a chance to do it.

AHS hasn’t gotten back to me on the gas stove and this is the only time that something like this happened. I was in Florida for six years and I had them, and usually, I love them. I would just go online, I’d do a service request and then they would send the contractor to me. I like the fact that I didn’t have to try to find somebody and I just paid that flat fee for them to come out and fix it. I had a refrigerator and a water heater replaced before and on both times I was notified that same day. I really like American Home Shield and typically, I have a really good experience with them. I recommended AHS to one of my old neighbors here in Virginia and she signed up also because I told her how great American Home Shield is.

I called American Home Shield regarding a small leak that has been there for years and they sent a plumber. The assessment was that there was no plumbing issue. So we dug a big hole in the first floor in the kitchen just watching because the leak continued and continued. And he said that it was the drain. When I took showers, the water leaked by the drain but the drain was perfectly well. It was not the drain. There was a tube inside the wall that had been leaking for years. So I called another plumber and they found the problem and they fixed it. So that's why I called to claim my $125 back because the plumber that they sent just did a very bad assessment.

The rep whom I spoke with did a nice job but when I asked for the manager she never passed me along to the manager. She said that the manager was not available. I explained to her that I need my money back and she said that there was no way to get my money back. It was a very sad situation because I would like to continue with them but right now I'm looking for some other alternative. The only thing that I would like to hear from them is that I have a credit of 125 bucks for the next time if needed. With that I'm going to be happy and I will not cancel the contract. Also next time I would like to see somebody more competent to visit me.

When I turned the spa on, it sucked all the water out of the spa so there was something wrong with the flow. I filed the claim online and that was pretty easy. Usually, when you call any of American Home Shield's numbers, it’s just the recordings and a bunch of prompts to get you to live person so it’s easier to do it online. I looked up the pool guy's scores online and I was a little worried because his scores are either five or zero and he has more zeros than not. Sometimes the claim was denied and those are usually with the people who put the low scores but he was really good. He stayed for probably about an hour and fifteen minutes going through the system. He took a lot of time with it and then he had found the problem and fixed it. He got the circulation work going the right way. He also explained it to me. Overall, it was a good experience for me.

The first time we bought a home warranty, I was a little skeptical but American Home Shield has been really good to deal with. They paid both the claims that we’ve had quickly so I was pleasantly surprised. On a new purchase, it’s worth it but I don’t know if it would be worth it year over year. Hopefully, the appliances aren’t breaking that much but when you’re buying out something that you’re not familiar with and you don’t know what condition, I would be recommending the home warranty highly on the purchase while still waiting for the contract.

A-1 Plumbing called us and we called them back to set up a date.

We were very impressed with the plumbers who were assigned to us, especially George. They had to take pipes apart, find out what the particular problem was, and they fixed the problem nicely. We were very satisfied with the outcome. And George even gave an extra advice with an eye towards the future after they solved our problem. He said that at the risk of running up our water bill, it's better for the pipes to let the water run and run and run extra. He said that's a good thing with the pipes. My water bill was going up. I like the process of submitting the claim. I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years now and when I call in, I could pay the service fee directly rather than pay the contractor.

The interaction with the contractor was very nice. Rene was excellent, well-versed and articulate. He knew what he was doing and he was explaining it as he was doing it along with the fact that I was asking questions. He repaired the spigot on the same day. It was very neat. He had little booties that you put on over your shoes. He laid a towel in the tub to fix all of these. It was very nice. Now, I have the most fabulous shower ever. Get American Home Shield and you can be guaranteed whatever package they give you. Someone will be there and they always call before they come. Everything is timely.

Somebody had just come out to do something to my furnace and the first person that came out wasn’t as in tune with oil heat so somebody else came out and he was. But I did have a little incident when the first guy came out to work on my furnace. They did not give me a time but the contractor happened to be in the area so he came by to see if I was home. That was fine. It was the dead of winter and I didn’t have heat and he was just trying to help out. That would have been great if I would have been home but I wasn’t and I couldn’t get to the house before he left. But they accidentally charged me when he didn’t even come into my house. When he signed out, it showed him as actually doing the work on my house.

I had to call two times and sit and wait on the phone to dispute it. I was told that I would be credited but they didn’t. So I called back a second time and the girl said that it was going to be credited back on a certain date and that it took time. But I never got it credited and I wasn’t going to sit on the line again and try to tell them again. I ended up calling my credit company and it's in dispute right now.

I’m not able to get through to American Home Shield’s customer service. It was over an hour the few times that I had to do it and that is way too long. I should not have to sit on the line for hours every time. I told the person that sells American Home Shield to our real estate company about it and I was told that they’re supposed to be getting more people. It was supposed to get better but it’s not. The only way I can set up an appointment without sitting on the phone for hours is to go online. But if I have a question about anything, it takes hours.

The technicians also have to do the same thing. My good friend’s son works for a heating and air company in Maryland that uses American Home Shield and he wouldn’t be able to leave a job until he gets through to American Home Shield. He would have to sit and sit. Even when you’re working late, you have to sit and wait for American Home Shield to answer the phone to get the approval to do a job when you find the problem. That’s frustrating for a technician especially. They should have their own private department. But aside from waiting hours to get through to them on the phone, I’ve had an okay experience with American Home Shield.

We've been with American Home Shield for about four years since we bought our house, and every claim with them has been a long process. It takes a long time to get somebody to answer, and they'll always say you may have to wait an hour because of the volume of calls. I can go online and do it but I always wanted to request the particular repair company that we were happy with. Online, you will bounce around with different companies and it almost becomes an experiment on which ones are going to work for you. Some have been here to work on a refrigerator and they complained how poorly and late they were reimbursed by AHS. And I didn't need to hear that so I don't want them back. I had to stop the AHS reps and say, "No. Don't give us that company, I want PK Plumbing or it's okay to have Sears come out and fix the dishwasher."

When the tank in the master bathroom's toilet went empty, PK Plumbing's guy came and assessed the situation. The tank mechanism was deficient which also affected the flushing mechanism. He put a seal temporarily so the water wouldn't leak out of the tank. They ordered the part from KOHLER. And when it was sent to our house, I told them when I got them. It also occurred over a weekend where KOHLER was shipping the parts. The guy had the disadvantage of a weekend and the shipping. And it took 5 days before he came back.

You have to take notes on your experience with them. I pay $65 a month to have the warranty and $75 for their service call. They pay for the part, but they tend to want to fix something to the nth degree, even though it's broken. They'll get generic parts if they can get them, to fix and do a bandage fix rather than going through the cost of having to replace something. I've had that experience with one of my water heaters. One finally got replaced but I had to go through a snuffle. Plumbing is the worst issue you can have with AHS, trying to get a really good reputable company to fix it. And I like PK Plumbing since their plumber fixed the toilet and knew what to order. It was a KOHLER part. It was shipped to our house and came in a box. They did the same thing with the water heater. They had it shipped to our house and put in the garage.

I also don't think that it's appropriate if you get a repair person who wants to use your ladder. It's a liability factor if they fall off the ladder or if they damage your equipment. Another thing I didn't like was when they come in and repair and they don't have a cloth to drape over the counter to protect your granite or the front of your dishwasher. They throw their clipboard on the counter. It's usually stainless steel cover or metal cover.

We had AHS in our other house too and we have the same issue. You have to go through the process. If you're a long-time customer, it would be nice to get an express line or if they let us leave our name and number, then call us back. But if they do that, sometimes they already reassign you a company and give you a reference number. And I don't want that so I always wait to hear a voice. Other than that, I have recommended AHS to family members. One of my daughters said it's a really long time to get somebody to answer the phone. And like me, another daughter said she doesn't want a certain company back. Companies want to be on AHS's list because they want or need the work. And so when you get someone and you had a good experience, you tend to want them back. Overall, I'm happy with my experience with them.

My heater wasn’t working and I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. The tech had to come back because he didn't fix it completely. He fixed the furnace but didn't fix the thermostat part of it. I spoke with the company manager and apparently, the guy that originally came out was laid off. So, it probably was just a bad employee. They came out right away the next day and fixed it. It was pretty good and they cleaned it up pretty well.

AHS has it set up where it is more simple to file a claim online where you just click on what is wrong but you don't really have space to fill in what's going on with that particular situation. AHS then dispatches out the actual mechanic versus the office, so stuff gets lost in translation. Most of the time with me, I have to have someone set up my house because I have to be at work. So, I end up calling a friend or somebody to sit there for the contractor to come so that I don't have to take time off of work.

Even though I can try to relay something to someone, he may not interfere with the contractor. So I am calling them back and telling them that they only looked at this problem and not the other one. Then I’ll have the tech saying that he didn’t know about the other problem. So, that means that AHS was off or didn't relay the information properly. I would suggest that all the information be sent over with more detail. I still refer everybody to American Home Shield. I've had the experience of working with another home warranty company and American Home Shield is still the best one that I've worked with even though I've had some things that have taken place here and there.

He then told me that it was due to abuse; that we had abused the ice maker.

They had to come back out and ordered some more parts but in a few days, those parts went bad.

On the third time they came back out for the washer, they diagnosed the transmission to actually be the problem that caused the other problems. The switches would short out and they said there were no parts that they could order for it and they could not fix it. It had been about a seven-week process already and I had to go out and buy a new washer. And I've been waiting for American Home Shield to call me back and tell me if they're going to refund me some money. I spoke with a supervisor and she said that it had been sent to the claims area and that it would take a few days and then they would be back to contact me. But, nobody has contacted me. And I couldn't get to a supervisor on the phone and I had to argue with some service reps forever. I'm almost at the point where I'm going to call and cancel AHS after 12 years.

We just bought this house at the end of November and this is the first time I have had a home warranty on a house. We only took it out since it's an older house, so we figured it would be easier if we took the warranty out as we never know what we're going to get into with. My dishwasher was put in back in 2001 but it wasn't drying. The dishes also did not get cleaned like they were supposed to. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online.

A repairman from Josh's came out and he replaced my upper spray arm. And then, he replaced the soap dispenser, since it's all-in-one and the hole where we put the rinse aid stuff in. He told me that that would help on drying. However, when I pull them out, they were still wet. It helped the cleaning part, but they were still not getting dry all the way. So, I called them back and he ordered another part. He replaced the soap dispenser and the rinse aid dispenser because they were not opening right. But then, it has a vent that opens to help it dry and he does not think that it was opening, so he's replacing that. He was supposed to be out Friday, but he was sent some wrong part, so he's coming tomorrow afternoon. And Josh's, they are very friendly and fast.

The way it works is that if I filed a claim, then I will get an email or a text message that says Josh's Appliance, or whoever the company may be, will be getting in contact with me, letting me know to set up an appointment. And then, when they call, I get a text message that says my appointment has been scheduled for whatever time. I have gotten fast replies back and fast callbacks from when I made the claim. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to somebody who is going to buy a new home. American Home shield works anything and I had a good experience with them. If it continues to be good, we may renew it at the end of our year and just keep it, since it is a lot easier to pay $75. We have been really pleased with everything.

The computer part of my 12-year-old GE Profile dishwasher wasn’t working at all. I spoke with American Home Shield's representative to submit a claim and it went good. But their tech couldn’t get the part to fix it so AHS gave me a credit. I wanted the Profile one like the one I had before and I was pleased because Profile got me a better price than what it would have been in the store. So, AHS gave me $700 and I added another $700.

I had a problem with the installation though as the installers were not very knowledgeable and they didn’t have the tool needed to put it in. They also said they would come back to pick up the old one but they didn't. I had to pay $200 to have somebody else put the dishwasher in and they put it in with no problem whatsoever. They were also the ones who took the old dishwasher. So, I used the the money I saved on the new dishwasher to pay for the installation with someone else. But, all in all, I was really pleased with American Home Shield. They're great and I’ve given them a lot of referrals because they’re very kind and nice to talk to.

I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink and my bathroom. The experience when submitting the claim was difficult because a representative took my information but I couldn’t understand why the actual plumbing company wasn’t getting in touch with me. So, I called them back and I said that I haven’t heard from the plumbing company. The rep said that they canceled my claim because nobody ever said they could get in contact with me. I said that nobody tried to contact me.

American Home Shield was putting in the wrong phone number for the company to contact me. I asked the rep what number she put in and she said that she put in this particular number. But when I called the company, they said it was not the number that AHS gave them, so I called the rep back and I said that it was not the number she gave them. She said it was but I told her that the company told me that she gave them a totally different number. That was the reason the company couldn’t get in touch with me and it took almost three weeks. The rep lied but if she would’ve said sorry that she gave them the wrong number, I would accept that from her trying to tell me that she gave them another number.

I ended up calling the actual company, Bay Mechanical, myself and made the appointment. They came out and they were awesome. The guy was very good and very informative. He told me he had to come back because he had to get an approval for the work. He came back and took care of everything, so the experience with them was good.

We had a leak under our slab on the patio. There are plants in the back of the yard there and it had the water line that goes to the plants. That pipe broke and leaked then the water went inside the house which caused a 6-foot round puddle. I called American Home Shield and they said that a plumber would be in touch with me within 24 hours. They did but AHS did not pay for the repair though because the leak wasn't inside the house. So, I had to pay for it.

The plumbers who came out were thorough and really good. They told me what was wrong with the house and that it would cost me so much money to do it. I told them to go ahead and instead of finishing it in four hours, it only took them an hour and a half. Plus, they charged me less money for it. Before, I had some contractors that were pretty bad. But American Home Shield has always been good to me. Every time I called them, they'd send somebody out and they were always within the 24 hour time. I would tell my friends to get AHS.

Our heat pump outside in a remote home in Florida had an issue. I filed a claim online since it was horrible to get through American Home Shield on the phone. I wait forever and every time I call, even at weird hours, they always play the message that they're really busy. I had someone in Florida who met the contractor. It was two different people. First, someone came out and diagnosed the problem. Then, we had to wait for a part which took a little while. Another person came in to put the part in. It turned out that the people they sent out made a big mistake. They fixed the original problem but they forgot to plug something back in all the way. That contractor never took the time to make sure that the actual problem was completely fixed because the air conditioner never really came back on. It almost caused a fire because it heated everything up.

I had to call a private company that night and have them fix what the other tech forgot to do. The heat pump is fixed now. I called the people who were supposed to fix the problem originally and I told them that when the guy left, he didn’t do things and he could have caused a big fire. Then, the owner of the company called me the next day and they reimbursed me for the service call to bring the other people out.

I kind of debate whether I'm going to drop AHS or not. But I have a remote property and it's just more convenient. One or two times I may have to call them out for the year. It sorts of pays for itself in my line with what it would cost for a service call to come out so, that's why I keep it. For the big huge repairs, I have to prove too many things to AHS. So, I know that if my AC completely goes down and they talk about a new one, I'm going to have to pay it out of my pocket because they're going to take too long to get something done. But for the little things like the plumbing calls I've had, it kind of paid for itself. I can justify continuing to pay for months.

We had problems with both of our toilets in this home that we bought recently. This first happened probably two months ago and American Home Shield always had someone there promptly so we were satisfied with the timing. The first couple of times that we called them they sent someone out who could get it working again but then it would just be days before the problem happened again. The first guys that came did what plumbers normally do in such situations and we were left to think that there’s something wrong with the toilets or otherwise they wouldn’t keep stopping up again so quickly.

The last time, the company sent out a guy named Jeremy who clearly has more experience and has been with the company more often. He apologized that it hadn’t been fixed to our satisfaction the first time that’s why he was back and he fixed it. He diagnosed that there was likely a buildup of minerals in the pipes from the hard water and that would’ve likely been obstructing the pathway. And so he got some stuff we can buy at Home Depot and showed us how to use it to break up that deposit and advised us to use it several times. Then he showed us how to do it and he did it for the first time. That seemed to have solved the problem, so we’re very satisfied with the outcome. The house is three years old and Jeremy said that by then, it can begin to make the toilet a continuing problem unless we get rid of that mineral deposit.

These particular toilets do not have a large capacity as many dumps these days as far as the volume of water. They’re designed that way and it may be good for the environment but it’s not as good for working so we know that that’s part of the deal. Having a warranty is essential at least in the first year or so of having a new home or having a home that’s new to you. And so in this case we would’ve had to get a professional to help us. American Home Shield helped us out when we weren’t sure what we were dealing with and how much we would possibly have to spend to get it fixed.

I had AHS replace the furnace in our house in ski country. I submitted the claim online and it was fine, but the overall processing of the whole thing became a scary thing. The contractor came within two days and he verified that the unit needs to be replaced. One of the things that AHS does is they won't let the local furnace guy go get a furnace locally and that is a problem. The contractor insisted on shipping one from a national distribution center, which took three days to get to them. Until the contractor has it, he can't set a schedule to replace the unit. It took five days and we had no heat. They need to allow the local vendor to get a furnace anywhere. I'm sure it costs more to do that, but they're too oriented toward saving those two hundred dollars. It's about being timely.

Also, the unit they gave me takes 14 hours to heat my house up from 50 to 70, which I really did not expect. It's a vacation home so we're not always there and 50 to 70 is only 20 degrees, but 14 hours is a lot. I have been meaning to go under the house and get the model number because I think they might have shrunk the size of the furnace and put it in a smaller one. Overall, AHS was effective but never timely. If you ever care about having something work again quickly, you are in trouble. If the toilet goes down, and you have three toilets, that is not a big deal. But if your only furnace is down, that is important.

The contractor came out to check on two of my bathrooms that were leaking. He told me that one of them needed to be caulked around the faucet, which he said he couldn't do. He also said that the shower pan in the master bathroom was failing, but we had to have someone else determine if the shower pan fit and he didn't do this as well, so he couldn't confirm if that was even the problem. Actually, nothing was done to get my issues resolved. The contractor was fine, but I didn't feel that he did what he was really supposed to do. I had to pay $75 for the contractor to come out and not do anything. I'd tell people to look at other home warranty providers and get another quote from them.

The problem with American Home Shield is when the service people come out, depending on the company they use, sometimes I find that I would have liked somebody else that might have done a better and more thorough job. Sometimes, the contractors are not as thorough. My last claim was for the washing machine and dryer and it was one of those things that the tech couldn't quite figure out what was going on. The tech was gonna call me back to see if AHS would cover the repair but I never got a callback and I never called. Right now, the machine is working better though.

Also, under all circumstances no matter what, AHS will push for a repair until the end of everything trying not to replace. I understand that but sometimes it makes the homeowner go through a lot before we actually don't have to worry about this problem re-occurring. I've actually had AHS before in another home and I've had them on this home and right now, I am deciding whether or not I will continue with AHS. A home warranty has got its good points and it’s not a terrible thing. It just depends on how lucky or unlucky you are in the people that the company sends. It's always valuable to have a warranty but you have to weigh whether the price you pay for it is worth it.

However, the delivery service from Sears sucked. Sears was awful. They called me the morning of, I went to answer the phone and the rep hung up. He spoke Greek, not English. I called them back, but he never answered my phone. Sears delivered the microwave, but they never looked at it and it had a dent in it. So, I had to reschedule the appointment with American Home Shield and Sears had to come back. But I would tell a friend or family member to definitely get American Home Shield. My sister has it and she also has had nothing but good experiences with the contractors.

I’m happy with AHS so far. When the cooling of the AC was not coming up, I called them up. The representative I talked to was fine. Then I waited maybe two days for someone to come out. The contractors explained everything and they took me around to show me what the problem was. It was just a wire that came loop. Everything's been fine now. I would recommend AHS. I have plenty of experiences with them and they're really good.

I put in a request for service with American Home Shield over the website, tell them what's not working, then I very quickly get an email saying that they have contacted this particular company to do the service and that they should be calling me within a period of time. But that I can call them and they provide the contractor's number. One time, I was having some work done in the kitchen and I found out that our floor drain wasn’t draining properly. The contractor came out really quickly and cleared the drain for us.

I've been really happy with the plumber that has been assigned to my area. I've hired him to do work for me for things that are not covered under American Home Shield. Also, the sewer drain cleaner people were really super nice and responsive. In January, I had a furnace company come out and I was happy with them too. My only concern is that I've had a couple of issues where they had three days to turn around a request for service. If it's the dryer, I can live without it for three days because I can run next door to my neighbors. But in the middle of January, if my furnace is not working and it's 30 below zero, three days is too long.

Other than that, I've been absolutely fine with AHS. I had an urgent request the other day and they thought they were going to switch providers for us because the one that they had assigned didn’t think he would be able to fit us in. But as it turned out, he was able to and he came the same day. If you're looking for a home warranty company, definitely check AHS out. They cover a lot of things and it's $75 a pop for each time somebody comes out plus the $50 every month. So, some years you're gonna come out ahead and some years you're not. It’s like insurance.

My Amana washing machine wasn't going to the cycles like it was supposed to. American Home Shield was very helpful and they sent me an email to verify what time the technician would be coming and everything worked out just like I wanted. Two of the supports were broken and the tech fixed all four supports which was wonderful because it would just be a matter of time before the other two would break. I was very happy with the technician who came out. I couldn't believe how young he was but he knew exactly what was wrong. He called and found out that the part was available and came back the next day. He was punctual, very polite, knowledgeable and efficient too.

We just sold another home in Ohio and we were thrilled to know it was with American Home Warranty and we were more than happy to give our business to them. Also, my sister purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona and I found out she has the same warranty company but in a different state. I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a plumber to come out. But my overall experience with them was not very good. My wife pays American Home Shield $70 a month and although we were supposed to have someone service us, it took them 24 hours to respond to us. It took awhile to get somebody to come out and we had no plumbing for 24 hours. We had to call them back and then they got us with a plumber. But once the plumber came out, he was fine and very professional, and he did a very good job. Everything has been operating as it should and has been working fine ever since.

However, I would tell my friends to save their money, depending on how old most of their appliances are. I don’t realistically think the American Home Shield warranty pays off if all your stuff is relatively new and works fine. Unlike an auto insurance that's needed, this one is definitely an insurance that’s not needed, but this is for when you'd rather pay somebody to come out to your house than make a simple fix yourself. It's for people who don’t know how to upkeep their own home. I had a plumbing issue that required a snake, so I needed the warranty, but most plumbing issues don’t require a snake and can usually be fixed with a pipe and a fitting wrench.

The furnace start did not work, so I needed somebody to look at it. The process of submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very easy and simpler than I imagined. I did it on the website and said I needed a professional. Somebody then called me up almost 30 seconds after, where the contractor and I had an excellent communication. However, the contractor was busy, so I hoped that the response was quicker because it was cold and we did not have a furnace. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased with the experience and the agency that came out. They took care of the issue and probably saved some money in the process. The furnace got repaired but part of the repair required changing out some asbestos-laden. It wasn’t the whole ductwork, it was the flue pipe. Now, the furnace is perfectly working and everything is fine.

The guy from A1 Quality that American Home Shield sent looked at it and he realized what the problem was. There was a certain part that he had to order specifically because of the fact that the fan was remote controlled. We did not have a drop string to pull it and it worked solely off the remote.

He said it will take about seven days for the part to come in and they would call and reschedule an appointment to come out and finish repairing it. We just have not heard back from them yet. We are still waiting for them to get the part. Luckily, it has not been too hot but it’s supposed to warm up this week. So we are hoping that the fan gets repaired so that we can utilize it. Nevertheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. They have always been pretty prompt in returning our calls and in setting up schedules for us to work with whatever vendor they assign.

About a month ago, the same issue returned. I submitted the claim online and then subsequently, I called over the phone. I thought it would be quicker for me to just call in and customer service was very helpful in helping me process that. I paid my deductible, the technician came out and took care of it. He was great. A week later, the same issue again so this time, I made sure before they came out, I looked through some things myself and made sure there was no extra lint or anything in it.

The technician came out and double-checked some other issues in there as well and replaced the thermostat and some other coupling. He got it running that day. I did three loads past that weekend and it did not heat at all. So, it was the same issue again. They came back out and made sure the issue was not what they had replaced and they tested everything again. It just wasn't working. They were very diligent in trying to figure out the problem, but the parts didn't exist and they thought it was going to cost more to try and replace the parts. They couldn't find the other parts as well so, it had to be replaced. I had a good run with it. We had a home warranty before, but we have not had service like this. When I had taken stuff out of the washer and put it into the dryer, the dryer started making all kinds of terrible noise, so I shut it off. There was a wired spring that got in the dryer and made all of the noise. There was a metal ring around the gasket there that's 18 inches in diameter and when the contractors came out, they had to order a new ring, which cost $4.49, and put it in the washer.

I called American Home Shield when I submitted the claim but I could never talk to anybody live. I tried to call them several times and I had to wait for a half hour. I hung up then tried to call back later and I always got, "We've got a heavy call volume." If that was the case, they should put somebody else to answer the phone. Their reps were effective but that time, I was a little irritated because I had to wait. Then, it took a day or two for somebody to come out and look at the washer, which was reasonable.

So far, the contractors that I have experienced have been decent. I had an air conditioner issue last year and one contractor came in and gave me an evaluation. He was going to replace the compressor but American Home Shield called in another guy who put it in before. They had different ideas so AHS paid for the less expensive deal. This was during the winter time when my furnace was malfunctioning and it took several days to get the contractors to come out. But I understood that because of the extremely cold weather we had. I wish they got here sooner but I was not the only person in the world with a bad furnace during cold weather. Other than that, American Home Shield keeps raising their price right now, but they're all right.

I’ve purchased a brand new home before and I have an old home. The brand new home, I have peace of mind that it was covered under warranty. I had 10 years to replace or repair anything that went wrong inside the house. And I feel the safe and secure too for my old home. People buying older homes may buy somebody else’s problems but if they have that home warranty, they have the security that it’s going to be taken care of.

Also, I had a fan and its light was not coming on so I called AHS. A contractor came and looked at it and he said that I need to get another fan. He told me that it's cheaper to get another fan and for them to put it on, I have to give $75. He took the fan and left. I then bought a fan waiting for him.

Three days after, another person from the same company came. He took the old fan off and put in the new one I bought. I was informed that American Home Shield was going to pay me for the fan but they didn't. Also, the second contractor that came from the same company demanded another $75. So I paid the $75 because the guy was going to cause problems. He said he's not leaving and he was getting ready to take down the new fan that he put up. I just gave him the $75 and then he left. He said he has nothing to do with the first person that came and took my money. I have reported this case three times and AHS hasn't done anything. I talked to them and whoever picked up the phone disconnected me. They didn't pay for the fan and they didn't give me the $75 that I paid twice for the same job. That's a rip-off right there.

I have one claim with American Home Shield that has been on-going for a year and it has been horrifying. They have this company that they're using which is a horrible company. My air-conditioning unit was leaking last May and AHS had the company come out. This company has a lot of turnover with their employees because each person that came wasn't able to fix it. One guy came and said that he fixed it. Then it started leaking literally a couple of hours later. Someone else came who tried to fix it and it was leaking again. Finally, the last guy that came was somebody who has his own air conditioning company but works for this company sometimes said that I needed a whole new compressor and a drip thing. So, the company tried to tell American Home Shield that I owe them money because it was too hard to get to my unit and that they were going have to spend quite a bit of time doing it.

I called American Home Shield and they said that it wasn’t true. So, American Home Shield called and had a big fight with them about it. I finally got to an AHS gal that was willing to help me and she was fantastic! She really fought for me. AHS was able to get the price down but I still had to pay $400 to the plumbing company that came and they still haven't even fixed it. The company that AHS works with for plumbing and air condition issues where I live in Connecticut is only one company. I told AHS that I didn’t want the same company and they said that this is the only company that they work with. This company had to order a special part and finally, in January, they put it in but they couldn't put any liquid in to see if it would run correctly because it was too cold.

It has just been a nightmare. I literally had to talk to five different people from AHS and every time I would call, I was on hold for more than an hour. Now my house is sold. We're closing on April 9th. So I have to have another air conditioning company come in to just take care of the issue because I can't wait for AHS’ company to come and fix it. I actually just renewed with America Home Shield and I'm gonna cancel it. I called to find out about this claim that’s still open and they said that my membership has expired. It told them that I never got a notice and I've always paid every year and I've had it for five years. And they asked if I wanted to renew and that if so, I’m gonna have to pay a certain amount. So, I ended up renewing it because I didn't know what was gonna happen with this air conditioning. I'm really not happy.

American Home Shield is usually prompt in having assignments. They have called me and responded to any issues or whatever case there have been. But there was this one particular contractor I had an issue with. When my refrigerator stopped being cold, AHS hooked me up with the contractor who was rather abrupt. I did an honest after-service survey and mentioned that although the contractor fixed the fridge, he didn't call to make an appointment and just showed up a half hour after I called and he didn't clean up after himself. Then he called me after he saw that survey and said, "Now, you're with me on the phone for 15 minutes." So, I won't be using that particular contractor anymore.

That was the second time that the contractor had been out. There were similar issues with that contractor a couple of years earlier when the seal of the refrigerator door needed replacing and at that point, I asked AHS not to send that contractor back out. Unfortunately, they still did and I gave the benefit of the doubt when I saw who was assigned again, but it didn't work out this time, either. Other than that, I haven't had an issue with American Home Shield. They are very accessible online and over the phone and very easy to use. AHS is a good business and their warranty is a very good thing to have considering what repairs could cost.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a leak in the plumbing under my house. I noticed it when I was going barefoot. When I walked back into my office and over to where my computer is, I stepped down and the rug was wet. I started feeling around the area where a couple of years ago, there was a leak under there in the same place. I called AHS back then and the contractor came out. They went under the house and did something and stopped the leak. But these last two times when the contractor came out, they said there was no leak. He said that the water was running off the roof down the side of the house into the patio door and that it wasn’t necessary for him to go under the house on both times. He left, and I got an email from AHS telling me that they were closing the claim.

American Home Shield is a terrible insurance company. After what they did with my stove, I don’t think I'd recommend them to anybody. The only reason I haven't canceled them and gone with somebody else is that when I talk to other people about their experience with home insurance companies, they aren't any better than AHS. So, why would I trade one terrible insurance company for another one? I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield but I would rather not go into anything else.

I have a double oven for which I filed the claim on February 19th and it's been going back and forth. Jones Family Appliance Company was blaming American Home Shield and American Home Shield was blaming Jones Family Appliance. I received a voicemail a couple of days ago finally coming to the conclusion that they have to replace the oven. But I still haven't heard anything about it and that's the thing that I'm most upset about. It will probably be at least two months by the time something even gets discussed, which is ridiculous.

The first claim was the oven, then I clicked the stovetop and the hood. The same company, Jones Family, came out for the stovetop and the tech was shocked that American Home Shield had not contacted me yet about the oven. He had told them what part he needed the minute he left my house. He said, "They're going to throw me under the bus." And when I called American Home Shield, they did throw him under the bus.

I also told him about my dishwasher, which is a Fisher & Paykel. Some little part on the inside that turns the stuff around needs to be replaced and he said he has it in his truck. But Appliance Doctor was the one that came out for that. He was nice but I would have to wait. So I wish I had gotten Jones Family Appliance for the dishwasher and not for the stovetop because he said he could've done it the same day and just switched to that. On the other hand, Appliance Doctor said that the warranty company needs to order the piece because as soon as it's more than $15, they won't let them do it. I guess American Home Shield gets a certain deal on the price. So I've had to wait over two weeks for the dishwasher to work. I've just had a horrible experience with everything.

The vendors coming out are very professional and nice. Everybody has said American Home Shield is the best but it's just difficult. It was compared to health insurance, which I understand. The insurance company doesn't want to pay for anything because they're trying to keep their profits up. Apparently, the house my husband and I bought that has all Fisher & Paykel appliances, which are high-end and a pain in the ass. It's not Whirlpool and stuff like that would've probably made my experience much easier.

The times that I called American Home Shield, the first rep said that it was on the vendor, not them. The second guy was very nice. He went over everything and told me that it was not normal. But this is my first experience with a warranty company and I don't know if it's normal. Also, I did not realize that I could pay one $75 fee and click all four of the oven, the dishwasher, the stovetop and the hood. So I did them all separately even though they were all broken at the same time. I tried to pace myself so I didn't have to deal with all of it at once. I have called in to a supervisor and he left me a voicemail. I've tried to get back in touch him, but he hasn't gotten back in touch with me yet. It’s also time-consuming being on the phone with both AHS and the contractor, and trying to get everyone to come to an agreement. What's the point? I would just not have a warranty, buy a new oven and not have to deal with these people and waste all the time.

We’ve had American Home Shield for five years and I have no complaints. They’re a good company and they take care of us each time. Our hot water heater needed a new element and we tried to do some self-maintenance but it didn't work. I called American Home Shield and they sent out a kid who was able to fix it. The time before that though, I was not overly happy with. I had a faucet in my bathroom that was leaking and the schedule that I was given, I wasn't home. The guy came early, replaced the cartridge, fixed it and left. I was running an errand and got home in time to see him but he was gone. I had a question I wanted to ask and he wasn't very considerate about the carpeting. He wasn't very tidy about his business too.

But throughout one year and a half of being with AHS, that's the only complaint I've had. The other contractors they sent did good work. They came within the time frame that they gave me, fixed things and went on their way, and everybody was happy. Also, they didn't leave a mess. AHS is doing fine and I am happy with them. We try to take care of things ourselves, but we cannot. We call for a fee, and AHS would come out and fix it.

Then, the electrical company called me to schedule an appointment that worked well for me. They came out and they were here when they said they would be. They were great and courteous. The AHS reps were pleasant and polite, but they weren’t knowledgeable about what was going on. All they could do was tell me they would check and see what was going on and they'd try to help me as much as they could. Nobody ever emailed or contacted me and tell me what was going on, if the part was in and if Carrier didn’t have the part. We had to wait a long time to get the part from Carrier and AHS. He said that the only thing he could do was recommend that it be replaced.

American Home Shield called and said they're going to replace the stove and microwave. We're waiting now for the call from the installer. The timeline is somewhere between five and seven days. They called on a Friday or Saturday to let us know. I had a leak and the plumber came out and he took three holes cut in my ceiling before he found the leak. It took the plumber three or four visits before he ever found the problem. But then it still leaked and they had to come back twice or thrice on that before it was resolved. And then the guy came out to patch the ceiling. But they were rough, and I wasn't very happy with the way that they did the whole thing. He knocked the picture off the wall going up the hallway, and it fell coming down the steps. I went in there, picked it up, went upstairs and I told him that he needs to be careful doing things.

The ceiling fan was right where two of the holes were cut and I asked if we needed to take the blades off the ceiling fan, and he said no. He said they were not going to hurt my fan. But while I sat watching them, he was dropping mud all over the top of my fan. The way they patched the holes, they could've smoothened the mud a little more differently. I told the guy that they have to do all that sanding up there to get it evened out. The next time I have any problems, I do not want American Plumbing to come into my house.

I've always had a good interaction with the claims people. The first time I called was on Monday, and I asked if somebody would come on a Saturday because I had a bucket on the floor. The rep said the man from American Plumbing would come out. I said no but the rep did not have anybody else that could come. Eric, the first plumber that came, was superb and I loved his work. The next time I had a leak under the house, I asked for Eric and he came back with another guy, and they worked on that leak. And then when the ceiling leaked again, Eric wasn't sent that time and instead it was another guy and a partner that came on a Friday afternoon. This guy came up there and automatically, he said that where the water comes out of the spigot, the pipe up there needed caulking, so he caulked it. I told him we had company and he said to wait 24 hours.

The system went south and water kept coming, leaking down on my hardwood floor, so we put a bucket up there. I called again and he said to wait 24 hours. We went up there and checked the caulking, and the caulking was dry. But when people went to take a shower again, I had to put a bucket on the floor. When you flip the handle and the shower comes on then when you go to turn the shower off, you have the release button. On Friday, the leak was coming out of that release button and the plumber said he didn't see it even though it was coming out of there the whole time. And he came back on Monday and my husband got the ladder, got up in the ceiling and told the plumber where the leak was coming from.

There is no water there right now, but when Eric came and cut the ceiling the first time where the actual leak was, the leak had run over and there were spots there. I called back American Home Shield and asked them if those spots will be repaired, and they said no because it was not cut out by their plumber. But I've got a spot up here where that leak could be over there when I got the guy to come back and do the stapling. I guess I could get him to repair that. I wouldn't recommend anybody to American Home Shield and I would tell a friend or family member to not go with them. I'm really thinking about changing from American Home Shield.

A week or two ago, I called American Home Shield about our drainage softener that I thought had gotten replaced. It was super old and it broke off. But I was informed that it was not replaced last year, so we did not do anything about it and that was on us. A few weeks before that, we had some sort of a leakage in our bathtub. So, the contractor came out but they deemed it as a hole around the drain and it was for caulking. They said they normally didn’t do that, but I asked them to do it so we wouldn't have to go to the store and buy. He said he would call his boss, and his boss said okay, so the contractor got the clear sealant caulking and did it for us. I was incredibly happy with him for doing that.

The AHS reps are professional and normally it takes a couple of days for a technician to get to us. But AHS doesn’t cover as much of the things that I would think a warranty would cover. Nevertheless, AHS is a good investment and it's more peace of mind. My best experience was when we bought the house and a little while later, we were about to have a big freeze and so I was going to go out and to seal the house. And I realized that there was an issue with one of the outside pipes and it was going to cost me 100 bucks to fix that one issue. But AHS fixed both pipes and I just paid the normal $75 fee. That was huge right there in itself.

They just ignored it and every time, they would say that they can't help me and to wait for an email. At first, when I called, they wouldn’t even get someone that day. Then the refrigerator started working, so I cancelled the claim because I called on a Friday and they said they couldn’t get anybody out until Monday. My friend then said that it didn’t start working again. I called right back and then they sent me to a company that was in a 909 area code and doesn’t even service my area. I had to call back and then they sent me to A-1, which has really bad reviews.

I called A-1 and they were freaking evil. The first girl, Maria, told me to call a number. It was GE and I got through to no one. Then I called back and I talked to Priscilla. She said that she had an email that she can email to American Home Shield’s purchasing department. I asked for a callback and she said yes, but I never got a callback. Then A-1 magically came out the next day when they said they couldn’t come here for two whole weeks.

American Home Shield then sent me to the company that worked on the refrigerator, High Desert Appliance, and the technician was cool. He diagnosed it and called it in right away. I called American Home Shield and they said that it was approved for a new refrigerator. High Desert Appliance offered to deliver it to me and install it. I even told American Home Shield I wanted them to do it because I live alone and I don’t trust anyone, but they said there was no way. I have Facebook and I contacted them there too. They said a rep would contact me but nobody did. A supervisor contacted me but she did nothing and said, “There's nothing we can do.” She said that the company only came out to our area once a week and that they hired to deliver my new refrigerator.

My interaction with the claims representative was horrible. And when they finally got somebody out here, they were supposed to replace the refrigerator but it took them three weeks to get the unit here. Then I ordered it and I had to wait on the phone for two hours. I wasn’t going to wait for their email because they were taking forever. I kept emailing them and then they emailed me back and said, “The first time we heard about you being disabled or having medicine in there was from this email.” I told them that they were lying because I've told every single rep about that and High Desert Appliance also knew that.

American Home Shield sent someone to look at both of my dishwasher and my stove. They fixed the dishwasher, but the stove was very old and they had to order some parts. We had been contemplating on replacing the stove if they couldn’t fix it right away. I called them and asked for the repairman who was here. He said to call the next day because all the parts are ordered through American Home Shield. I called the very next day and the girl said to me that it looked like American Home Shield was having a problem getting the parts. I said that it was just as well because maybe they have a policy where they’ll replace it or cash out if things are so old that they can’t get parts. I said that I’d be interested in that and I can use the money for a new one.

I didn’t hear anything for four days so I called back and I talked to somebody else. She said that the parts were ordered and they were already on their way to the plumber. I told her that I asked if I could be called before these parts were ordered and that they may not be able to find them. She replied that there was no record of that in the file. So I asked to talk to a supervisor, who just totally blew me on. She said that if they could ship the parts back, they might be able to do something. But she claimed she checked and said that they can’t ship the parts back. When the plumber called me within a few hours to make an appointment, I said to forget it and that I don’t need the stove repaired.

They didn’t offer me a cash out like I was expecting and that was wrong. The supervisor wouldn’t do anything for me. I wasn’t expecting thousands of dollars. I was expecting about $300 or anything that might help in purchasing a new stove. I didn’t do it any further because they were impossible to deal with when it came to things like that. I've been with American Home Shield for years. The reason I stayed with them was it's hard to get a dependable plumber, especially on short notice. Luckily, I can work with most of the people they send over.

My microwave has been out since November during Thanksgiving time. I went online and filed the claim to American Home Shield. Getting a hold of customer support on the phone has been, several times, with a long wait like close to an hour. That should be improved. But when I’ve submitted the repair order, they’ve always been out in a timely manner. And I’ve had several repairs that have been no problem. It was just the microwave replacement that seemed to take awfully a long time. The contractor was not able to repair it. When they brought the first microwave, it was damaged. Then I had to wait for them to get another one out. But it was taken care of and I finally got the replacement a couple of weeks ago. AHS is fine and it’s better to have it.

My son was home alone and heard the air conditioner condenser outside the house making a funny noise and blowing what looked like white smoke, so he turned off the system. We called AHS and they sent someone. The guy who came was very professional and did an evaluation. He said that what my son saw was perfectly normal.

He said that when it gets cold the coils have a tendency to freeze so the unit takes warm air from inside the house and reverses the fan and blows it through to the outside to melt the ice on the coils. What my son saw was like the white smoke that comes out of your mouth when it's cold and you breathe and the funny noise was the fan in reverse. The tech didn’t do anything, but his evaluation and explanation were helpful. All the same, I had to pay for it. But he still checked everything over. He said that as long as he was here, he would make sure everything was in working order. He did, which was good news as well.

Submitting a claim has always been very easy. They ask what is wrong and what the symptoms are of the whatever. Then they choose a vendor and they send me a notification. Their vendor has been engaged and if I don’t hear from the vendor within 24 hours, they give me the vendor’s phone number to call them myself. However, I have yet to have an instance where I needed to call a vendor. They usually call me to set up the appointment rather quickly.

Once, our warranty expired because we didn’t get a notification that it was about to. Perhaps their email went into the spam folder and we didn’t get it. A couple of weeks later, I realized and we had to report it after it expired. They should not just rely on email. They should make a phone call or send a text to back that up. But over the years, I have yet to have a bad experience with AHS. My sister has them for her house as well. We have two homes and have them for both homes. I'm a realtor and I always recommend a home warranty to my clients because it enhances the value. I have used several home warranty companies over the years, but my primary is AHS, the one that I've been most pleased with.

We had some water overflowing and I would have taken care of that but they decided to call it an emergency. So, the contractor had to adjust the schedule to get out quickly. The contractor was capable, took care of things, knew what he was doing, took care of it with good dispatch and everything seems to be back to normal since the repair. American Home Shield did what we contracted them to do, they were prompt in taking care of the issues and they got the people to fix things.

One of our faucets was leaking in the middle while another was leaking even though it was turned off. I called AHS to file a claim and the rep that I talked to was unclear at times. I mentioned the kitchen faucet to her and she told me that it was covered but when I told her about the faucet in the toilet above the tub, she thought it was the faucet in the tub. So, she asked me if there was a warranty for the tub. I told her it was just a regular faucet in the bathroom that we turned on and off above the tub. I also explained to her that all faucets are covered. I had a few problems understanding her as well but when she repeated everything, we got things clarified.

We called in a work order and so far, no technician has arrived yet. They are supposed to come tomorrow but I called them and asked if it was okay for them to send someone on the 21st. They said that they would not reschedule and that the scheduler would have to call me. So I don't know if the appointment was scheduled for the 21st or not. We've had AHS for a long time now and the vendors they used to work with have been more prompt. Now, the vendors are a little too hard to reach sometimes. They shorted the whole thing out and made it worse. The first company never came back in and after four weeks, American Home Shield finally hired another company to come in. The tech came in and did the whole thing in an hour. He was wonderful. We're quite satisfied with AHS, but they could have resolved the issue much sooner. All in all, I’d still recommend them.

There was a little bit of leak in one of the rooms. The bathroom pipeline had to get fixed. I called American Home Shield and they responded quickly enough. I did the request on a Sunday and some company came in by Monday. They did their job well. The only thing is that they had to put a two-way drywall and American Home Shield didn’t send anybody. Eventually, when I called, they said that when they find somebody, they can fix it. But this is Texas and it's hot and with the drywall out, I was getting a lot of the attic heat into the room. It's about close to 100 degrees here and I had the drywall open.

American Home Shield is big enough to find a local guy to be able to do the drywall. It has been a week and they can’t give me a date saying that they haven't found anybody yet. The point out from the speech is that they weren’t even looking because I went through two people on the phone who asked if the wall was actually cut. They had to verify that so I figured out American Home Shield pretty much, after the job was done in terms of fixing the leak, forgot about the drywall totally. Finally, AHS said that they’ll just do a cash-out option. I just told them to send me the $100 check and that's what they did. Rightly, they should have identified something within a day or two and just closed up the wall. In any event, I had to do it myself now but that’s fine.

I did that online and it was simple. But it took four days before I got in contact with a contractor. I called one and a half days after reporting the claim and no one called back.

It took the actual plumbing contractor three days before they actually scheduled plumbing because we were phone tagging. But otherwise, they were quick. They had to get parts though, so it was another four days before they could come and fix the problem. The other contractor did patchwork for the wall so the leak wouldn't get the drywall. It took four days for them to even reach me but they did the work immediately. Both contractors were really nice and efficient. They explained everything that they were doing and I was happy.

I called American Home Shield on February 28, 2018 because my real estate agent had reported the hot water tank was leaking (my home is for sale). They very quickly sent out a service provider who said they did not service propane hot water tanks. That having been reported, they sent out another provider on March 2, who affirmed that the tank indeed needed to be replaced, and the shut-off valve and piping around the tank also needed to be replaced to bring it up to code. So far, so good. Then nothing was done! The provider did not report back to AHS (according to AHS).

When I called AHS on March 12 (I was in Hawaii then, on vacation) they told me there had been no report filed and they would contact the provider. I called back on March 15 and was told there would be a charge for the “extras” and the AHS person told me what the charges would be, so I called the provider and gave my credit card number to pay for the extras. Then another person from AHS called me to tell me what the extra charges would be and told me I should have waited for his call before contacting the provider and paying! I called again on March 19 to see why nothing was happening and was told the “part was ordered” and as soon as it was in it would be installed.

I called again today, March 23 to see why nothing had been installed yet (I am still in Hawaii so at least I have hot water here!) and was told “someone dropped the ball and listed it so that the installer would pick it up instead of it should be delivered to the installer”. So the latest news is that it should reach the installer on Monday March 26, at which time they are supposed to call my real estate agent to be let in the house and install the hot water heater. Unbelievable that it is taking so long to get a new hot water heater!

You are better off putting the money in a savings account and hiring your own professionals. For example, in the contract it states hose bibs are covered. What they do not tell you is this only covers bibs inside the home not the bibs outside your home. Even if it is attached to your home that doesn’t count. Scam. Scam. Scam. It annoyed me when I had to talk to a machine but their response was wonderful and my claim was taken care of immediately. It was a horrific day and snow was coming down profusely so I was shocked that the contractor came and he was timely.

I also asked the tech, who was excellent, if he could check my kitchen sink and he agreed. Something was wrong and the washer was no good either. He went to move the washer and saw that it was corroded. The little leak that I had became a big leak and it wasn't only on the top, it was under the sink as well. He said that it was more than a washer problem and a replacement was needed. So, I asked him to replace it. When I called American Home Shield, I didn't know that I should have told them if more than one thing was to be worked on. However, the tech said that he'd call and make sure that they would cover it. He did what he had to do and told me that they were going to cover it.

Then, true to his words, the tech came back and did everything. He was amazing as he looked at the sink and brought me a faucet. It is beautiful and I love it. He also told me about this little thing on the side and asked me if I wanted him to cap it or have a thing where I could put soap in. I agreed and the next day, he was back and he put the thing in. I was so happy with this young man. He was knowledgeable, kind, and polite. I called up his boss and told him that he has an asset in the tech. I extolled their virtues and I was so grateful because it was one of those weeks when everything was falling apart at the same time. I had my washing machine and my refrigerator worked on, too, and I have always been pleased with American Home Shield. I want them to know that. I have recommended them to others as well.

However, I was told that AHS is a repair-first company and technicians indicated that AHS would do everything possible to avoid replacing our AC system. They came when they said they were going to come and the guy was very courteous and business-like. I liked that he discovered what was wrong very quickly and fixed it in about an hour and he was gone. It was a faulty wire job that had a short circuit and he fixed that. Plus, he put an inline breaker. He had a breaker but he didn't have the correct one there, so he improvised and made an inline one that works just as great. He was working in the attic and outside and he did everything efficiently. I asked him what was going on and he told me exactly what it was. He seemed like a very nice man who is well informed and he knew what he was doing.

I've had AHS for two or three months now and that was my first-time experience with this warranty company. If AHS does it that way every time I have a situation, I'll be very pleased. AHS is probably the largest company, and when I reviewed them, they had the highest ratings from customer reviews, so that was what steered me in that direction. There are some companies out there that claim to be comparable but when I read the fine print in the contract, there are a lot of things they don't cover. AHS is very plain on anything they don't cover and they're upfront about it, and it seems they cover just about everything. You can add on things like your pool and if you have a pool house or a cabana, you can add that on too.

The work was for 300 bucks but I have to pay over a $1,000 out of pocket for uncovered things to get fixed. The technician told me that the state of Texas required it to come up to code. I consulted with more reputable air conditioning companies and they said that it was what the state of Texas wants to be done but it is not a requirement. I asked the air conditioning company, as well as American Home Shield, to provide me documentation showing that this is a state requirement and they have yet to produce a documentation.

The only way that these technicians can make money is doing American Home Shield work at cost or even for a loss then overcharging for unnecessary work to be done on the rest of the air conditioning unit, and that is exactly what has happened. American Home Shield can do a better job of contacting and partnering with more reputable contractors. I have pretty much given up on the claim because American Home Shield is very vague on the pricing. I’m supposed to be given a $250 credit towards these upgrades that the contractor was saying but American Home Shield will not tell me how that $250 that is in our contract is applied. They just said it is confidential. So, that just leaves a queasy feeling in my stomach and it appears very shady. I do not recommend AHS. They are horrible.
