There was a problem with my refrigerator and the technician who came in spent months to fix the refrigerator because they needed to order some parts. It’s not the best but I’ve done services that are worse so it’s okay. There were no difficulties with American Home Shield and everything was easy and scheduled. They’re prompt and know what they do but it was hard to get to a live person. That is impossible and so everything was filed online. The experience is good but you cannot talk to customer service at all if you need something changed or discussed. Last time, I just wanted to ask a few questions if I can get to change the company but there is no information to contact them as well and you just email them. They're scared to talk to people.

The gasket on the toilet needed to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and the reps were okay. Within 24 hours, the tech came out. The interaction with him was good. I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years and this is the first time I’ve used it. This is my second membership. I had one that was in another home. I'd tell others that American Home Shield was okay. I’d also tell them that it’s a good idea to have some type of services like this.

I needed American Home Shield to send someone to repair my hot tub. When I called them, it took an hour to stay on the line just to get an American Home Shield representative to answer the phone and that was upsetting. I also needed my garbage disposal fixed and my water heater was messing up. The rep I talked to said that she'd add those to my list but when the tech came out two days later, the only thing that he fixed was my hot tub. He did an awesome job and he did it in five minutes or less. Then I called AHS back regarding the garbage disposal and water heater and the lady on the line told me that they did not have any additional work over on the list for me. So, I asked her to pull out the recording of the day that I talked to the first rep to be able to hear the additional services that I asked for.
The lady was really nice. She has been calling me back and forth but I haven't been able to catch her calls. She has been saying that she couldn't get in touch with anyone to get my request done. I called to ask the vice president of AHS to send someone who would do something about my request and AHS put in a request today. The contractor is going to come tomorrow to fix my water heater and my sink but there would be an additional $75 dollars for that. I shouldn’t have to pay that $75 because they didn't do it the first time.

My pool was acting funny and I put a request in via the website on American Home Shield and I got a call back from a pool place quickly. The website is very easy to use and works very well. It has been great. But if I have to call them, the customer service is awful. I’m put on hold for a long period of time when getting a hold of them. And when I got in touch with somebody, the rep was not very helpful and wasn't very friendly. I’ve carried American Home Shield for about four or five years now and I've had some very good experiences as well as very bad experiences with them. We've used the warranty fairly often, so it's been valuable. I'd tell my friends that American Home Shield hasn't been bad but if they look around, they might find somebody that's a little bit better with customer service.

My hot water heater had a leak, plus it needed to be changed out because it had a lot of rust on it. I had no problem submitting the claim to AHS over the internet. The next morning at around 10, someone called me and set up an appointment. The contractors were very courteous. They came, looked at it and took some pictures. They were very knowledgeable and concerned. They made sure everything was cut off and that it was safe. However, it took a few days longer than I would have preferred because they had to first get permission to change it out. Secondly, they had to order in the actual hot water heater. But as soon as it came in, they installed it in about three hours. The whole process took about four working days. Other than that, I find that AHS is prompt about the action that they're going to take.
However, I have a concern about the explanation of what they will actually take care of and what they want. They paid for the hot water heater without any problem at all. But the heated set was different than the one I had in there. They had to change out some of the fittings and some of the actual piping and I had to pay that out of pocket. The hot water heater had been in this home for 15 years. Things have truly changed out there in the world and it was just one of those things that I had to do. I also have some questions on the air conditioning central unit, things which are large but have been here for such a long time.
I understood the reasoning for what they said about it, but I didn't necessarily agree with the idea of them having a hot water heater installed and they wouldn't want to put certain things from the old hot water heater on it that may cause it to fail. I would like to see them include that because whenever they come out, they charge a fee of $75. If they were to put the old stuff back and have any problems, then I'd have to contact them again and see if they would contribute anything towards that. I wish they had a professional plumber that gives the word after looking at the pictures, "We will take care of that. And these other things that we see, they seem like they can be used again." And so we won't pay for them.
Other than that, I've used AHS more than one time and I found it to be very easy. They're always dependable. So far, the service people that they have sent out for us have always been courteous and have taken care of the problem. I have recommended AHS to my sister. I have no problem with what I've paid for and what services they give me.

I called to AHS the day after Thanksgiving and reported four different plumbing issues. One of the issues was that my shower was not draining, so a tech came out and he drained the shower. The other issues were, the showerhead leaking, the kitchen faucet, the bathroom faucet was dripping, and in my kitchen, I had a leak that was going down into the cabinet. The tech claimed that he doesn’t know anything about the other issues and he’s only there to do the drain, so I said, “I don’t know what to tell you but I called everything in.”
He calls dispatch for American Home Shield and I speak to that gentleman on the phone, he hands me his cellphone, and that gentleman proceeds to tell me that, “I don’t have anything written down.” I said, "The fact that you don’t have anything written down doesn’t mean I didn’t call it in.” And went round and round there. I called back, so now we’re to wait another week and they’re gonna send a different company out now. This guy is due on a Friday, between 11 and 4 so I had to take off work to meet him because I have to make myself available and they can’t come around my time.
I waited and he calls and tells me he’s running late. He shows up at 3:30. The company is based out in Riverside and I’m in Fullerton on a Friday, so he walks in here and I show him what needs to be done and I sit down. He comes back out in about 10 minutes, hands me a piece of paper, tells me to sign it, and he leaves. And I said, “Aren’t you gonna fix anything?” He goes, “I’m just doing an assessment.” I didn’t know I had to go through an assessment and I was livid. I feel that he did that just so he can get on that damn freeway on a Friday night because it backs up and you’re gonna be on that freeway for a couple of hours to get home to Riverside. I call in and I complain, the gentleman on the phone said, “You can get a second opinion but you’re gonna have to pay for it.”
I was freakin’ furious, so I called back to the complaints department and she listened to me and she said, “Would you like to have a second opinion?” I said okay. What he wrote in that paper was that he turned that assessment in to American Home Shield and they decided that all four of my claims, they couldn’t warrant them for various reasons. They told me that the showerhead dripping was due to the water pressure. However, the gentleman that checked the water pressure never went outside. I didn’t see him with any kind of a dial. I have checked the water pressure in the past at my house and I know what you need to do and he did not do that.
He claimed that the drip in the bathroom sink just goes drip, drip, drip like any old faucet does. It’s probably a bunch of calcium built up and if you just replaced the faucet it would probably stop dripping. He claimed that was due to some kind of water pressure problem. And then my kitchen, he claimed it was due to the spray hose that goes back into the faucet. We pull it down and then there’s the spray hose and sure enough, there was a leak there and I knew about that but I didn’t know if that was causing the leak down below.
My son had put some tape on there because it would spray you in the eye. He came and his claim on that one was not normal wear and tear so I said to the other company when I called in, “What else am I doing with this thing? You pull it out, you spray your dishes, and it goes back into the faucet. How can you do anything with it that’s not normal wear and tear?” Furthermore, it’s a Moen faucet and Moen has a lifetime guarantee. I could potentially fix it myself. I also called in my garbage disposal. One of the little knife things in there had come off. This guy wrote down that they’re not gonna warrant the garbage disposal because there’s no GFI, so I verify that with the electrical code.
The electrical code specifically states that a garbage disposal does not need a GFI. Furthermore, if I stick a fork down my garbage disposal and I turned it on, the garbage disposal turns off. Until you get in there manually down below, and unlock the knives, and pull the fork out, and tighten it back out again, it will never work. It doesn’t need a backup safety device so all of it was a big lie. They offered to send a second opinion out. I wasn’t here because I took two days off of work to deal with these people and I got nothing done, and my plumbing issues still aren’t done, and this is since Thanksgiving. The second guy comes out and my son was here. At that point, when the second guy came in, I added my toilet because on occasion when you flush it, it just keeps running and running.
The tech came out, I heard nothing, had no paperwork, I got some letters in the mail. They denied everything again so, as far as I’m concerned that company doesn’t do what they claim that they do. If they cannot fix a faucet that is dripping, then what plumbing can they fix? All of my issues were very simple plumbing issues and they denied all of them. It is the worst company in the world. What they do diligently is that they never called me after the second opinion. I got some letters in the mail and I read one of them. I didn’t even bother opening the rest. I just said I’m done with these people. I went to my bank and said, “I want the money back that I paid them.” I reported them and I need to fill out some paperwork.
I want all my money back from AHS. They are the worst of the worst. I don’t know what they do cover and they claim you can customize it and that’s why I chose them. I submitted the claim online and there’s nowhere online that tells you that anybody is gonna assess. I had a home warranty company the first year I bought the house and I never heard of such a thing. We got a service guy standing in my house saying, “I don’t know anything about those repairs.” Luckily he got through on his cellphone. The last time, I called to try to cancel my service. I was on hold for 45 minutes. Every time I’ve called them, it’s over 30 minutes on hold before you even talk to anybody. It’s absolutely absurd, so I’m not talking to them. I’m not cancelling my service, but they’re not getting another penny out of me.
I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the issues. I understand your concerns with the experience you encountered to have several plumbing issues repaired as well as the hold times yo0u endured to speak with a customer service representative.

I noticed a leak on my wall because it bluffed and it may have been leaking a little longer than I noticed. I called American Home Shield and they sent out a plumber from Advanced Home Service. He turned off the hot water on one sink and told me that there was some part that he might have to sit down and get. And if they didn’t have the part, they had to give me something new for that. He said that their office would be contacting me about it. Meanwhile, I couldn't use the sink in the kitchen and the other one where he turned off the hot water.
His office texted me on the 16th that they would be notifying me of any update within 24 hours. But that did not happen so I texted them back. Still, they did not respond. So on the 20th, I called them back and the lady I talked to said that the job was done. I told her it wasn’t then she talked to the technician and later texted me that the tech would be coming out. If I hadn't called them, it would have taken longer than that. So, I had a problem with the people in their office. If the employee told me that the office would be contacting me in 24 hours, then they should contact me and I shouldn’t have to contact them. I also had a nickel chrome faucet that they had to take out. I knew it was expensive and that I would have to help to have the same thing put in, but they didn't do that. They got me the cheapest one. But if I had a nickel plated faucet that was taken out, they should have put one back in.
After that, the contractor repaired the leak and now I can use my kitchen sink. I can also use the other sink where he turned off the hot water because that was where the leak was. When my grandkids wash their hands, they use hot water. So, the repair helped a lot. I have been happy with American Home Shield because in the past, their people came out fast. When they said they would be doing something, they did it. And when their guy said that someone would be calling me, it happened.

Recently, we had a heating issue with both our units upstairs and downstairs at the same time. I called American Home Shield and spoke with an agent, and I had to wait a while because I never remember my membership control number to punch into the phone system. So, I end up having to wait until someone comes onto the line to verify my address and phone number. But AHS sends a contractor out always at a fast turnaround.
The recent contractors came out, looked at the issue and did what needed to be done, which was to put a band-aid on it. We ended up calling them back the next day for them to come back and look at it again. The guys reviewed it and realized that it needed a part. So, they ordered a part and came back and replaced it. The heating is working fine now. The technicians sent were very professional and friendly. I had not heard of that particular company prior to AHS sending them out but they were excellent. Their communication was great. Also, they were knowledgeable about the problem.
We've been with American Home Shield for five years, and all of our scenarios didn't work out so quickly and easily. On one hand, AHS doesn't necessarily fix the problem the first time. They usually will put a lot of band-aids on it to satisfy the situation. On the other hand, they send good people out and they've all been friendly. We've worked with various groups in the area, all predominantly around the same issue. I'd definitely recommend AHS to family and friends, though sometimes the solution is obvious but they don't fix the problem immediately.

Our garage door's torsion springs snapped. I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield online and it was very easy. The contractor that they sent was very friendly and knowledgeable. He hasn't finished the repair yet though. He put a temporary fix to make it still be able to open. But so far, so good. He’s supposed to get back with me once the parts come in. I’m really happy with the service that AHS has provided. This garage door created an issue though. They're calling it the lift springs, so basically, the power. The motor provides a little bit, but more so, it provides movement and that the door's supposed to be gimballed, so it's basically weightless using the springs. Without the springs, the door doesn't open. But they're calling these springs as not part of the opening apparatus. So, they're telling me it's not covered, but we're discussing it.

Whenever I report any problem, it takes a couple of months to get it fixed. I had a service request four months back and it took more than one and a half months to get my refrigerator fixed. I did not have any backup option unless it was fixed and that was a big concern for me. I tried to reach out to American Home Shield multiple times but I didn’t get good response. Usually it takes one hour to reach somebody to talk to. So they need to make sure that there is some person available for the calls for service request. They do have online service request where we can create a service request and that’s a good thing to have but we cannot provide a lot of information there. When we try to reach out to get more information, they just put a message that says, “Okay, call back the service desk to provide more information.” Then when I call, it takes almost one hour to reach them.
The refrigerator claim involved multiple technicians from different companies. The first contractor sent a technician almost four times and getting an appointment with them took 15 days. So it was a long process. They did multiple fixes but the refrigerator did not get fixed. Finally, American Home Shield found some other contractor who could come and fix it and that was when the thing started working. The problem is that I don’t have any other vendors who can take care of multiple appliances, only Home Shield has that and that was why I went with them. Good thing is I pay monthly and if there are any big repairs, they are there to help out.

One month ago, I had my oven repaired. American Home Shield sent the appliance technician and he did a check-up, and then found that they need to replace a part. They ordered the part. After two weeks, the same technician came, handed the part, then stood and worked. Then he said he needed to replace another part. They ordered and replaced that. Then finally, the oven worked. But then we found another small problem but he again came and fixed that. I filed that claim online and their website was straightforward. It was very easy to click and it has very clear communication too. I also got a notification before the technician came and the tech gave me an update as well. It was a very impressive experience. American Home Shield has a good service. I would recommend it to others.

I had a heater that was cutting on and off and the thermostat was losing power. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online. It's hard to reach them over the phone. Online, they ask which appliance or system I need help with and there's an area where I put in some more pertinent information. A local company usually calls me within 24 hours. The contractor they put in touch with me for the heating issue solved the problem in about 30 minutes and everything works fine.
I've been with AHS for three years and had 20 folks come by. It's not very often the same person and I haven't had any problems with any of them. And for the most part, they're good. Early on, I had a GE dishwasher issue and the same guy came out two or three times. I didn’t think he was very competent but I his company was more competent than he was. Once they replaced them, I didn’t have any problems. I've referred a handful of people to American Home Shield that was interested in a home warranty.

I just moved into the house, so I’ve done a lot of new projects and I’ve used American Home Shield several times. Most recently, I had them repair my dining room lights. I submitted the claim on their website and it was super-easy. They were very friendly, to the point and professional. Moreover, they didn’t waste a lot of my time and didn't put me on hold.
The contractors have been okay and the work they've done has been good-quality. The electricians have been fine, but the plumbers have not been the best. As far as getting there and then estimating the job, they’ve been significantly off. Their contractors need to do a better job estimating when they get there. I don’t appreciate being led on with, “It’s only going cost this much,” and then it ends up being multiple visits. It cost me a lot more money than what they told me it would cost. In which case, I would have gotten bids to correct the problems that I had with the house rather than going through them. However, the repairs have been fine. The electrical has been spot on and the plumbing has been fairly good.
Overall I would tell friends to be careful with AHS. If it looks like it’s going to be a big project, it usually makes more sense to get bids rather than go through them. The process breaks down with the bigger repairs as far as how they send the jobs out to sub-contractors. They’re going to give a contractor that might be the one that’s available, not necessarily the one that’s going to give the best price. In addition, American Home Shield doesn’t cover a lot of stuff and one may end up having to pay above and beyond. But AHS is totally fine for small repairs.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield recently for my furnace. The process was easy but I had to wait for 40 minutes on hold on the phone. But when I finally got a hold of them, they were pretty fast and accommodating. They put in the request and they said a contractor was going to contact me. And then by the end of the day, somebody had already emailed me that they were going to come.
The first guy that came out didn't see anything wrong with the furnace and he said he'll leave the ticket open and he left. But our furnace was one of those things where as soon as he leaves, the symptom occurs. When he was there, it looked fine but as soon as he left that same night when it got cold it wouldn’t work. So every morning when I got up, it was like 67 degrees in the house. I had set it at 70, 71, 72 during the night and when I wake in the morning it's 62. The same thing kept happening. And then I noticed that American Home Shield charged my account. It was $125 and the guy was there 15 minutes and he didn’t do anything. But I've got to get this thing fixed because it's going to start getting cold pretty soon.
So I called American Home Shield again and then they sent the second guy out and I told him that when I wiggle the wire, the furnace works. But I don’t feel like waking up at two in the morning or at midnight to wiggle the wire to make it work every day. And then he started wiggling the wire and he said the gas valve was bad so he ordered a gas valve and he placed it in and the furnace has been working perfectly. And American Home Shield didn't charge me the second time around. The two contractors that came out were both friendly. The first one didn't do anything but the second one was polite and professional and he did a good job. American Home Shield is a pretty good policy. If something breaks you have to spend outrageously high amounts of money. So this is a good insurance to have and I would tell my friends to go ahead and get it.

All of my claims have been in regard to my pool pump. For a while it was a struggle to submit claims with AHS only because there is a certain contractor that doesn't seem to like to do work that they would assign to my claims. So I would have to call back, have them removed and find somebody else. In addition, I would submit claims online because the wait when calling them on the phone is generally somewhere between 45 minutes to two hours. They are difficult to get a hold of when I need an actual person. But with the recent claim I did it took them within 24 hours to address the issue, which was not long.
I like the contractor that I typically request because they're very quick and efficient. Since the last repair there is a significant change in the pool pump. It's performing the way it's supposed to have been. It takes a while for AHS to work with me whenever I experience difficulties. I usually get it taken care of so, there's never been an issue where a concern that I have or a change that I need to make has not happened. So far, I haven't had any claims kicked back. Everything that I've submitted has been addressed and AHS is very good at covering what's under the contract.

My furnace was freezing and I've already had multiple claims with American Home Shield on it. Originally, I filed my claim online, which was easy. Then after that, I had to call them, however, it's sometimes difficult to get through. I liked the contractors they've sent. However, the problem has been ongoing. They would come, the furnace would work, and then it would cut off. They would come back and do something else. It would work, then it would cut off again. I called and they said they were gonna talk to American Home Shield to see if the unit had to be replaced. We had some rain and they said the office was closed and never got back to me.
I had a terrible experience with American Home Shield that finally got resolved. I was gonna have appliances replaced two years ago. They just bought it out because I didn’t want what they had to offer. I didn’t have enough money to add to what they were gonna pay me then when I bought it, so I didn’t get anything. Then when I finally was able to get something, I got a quote from American Home Shield that was very reasonable compared to what I knew the appliance cost so I called back later to provide my credit card to pay for it.
They quoted me the same price as it was in the store and that went on for a while. I finally had to reach out to our real estate agent. I also reached out to one of the regional managers that we worked with when we referred clients that sold a home. They were able to get somebody else to talk. I had it recorded when the manager told me they were gonna honor the quoted price that the lady had given me. But when I called the people to do it, they just kept insisting, “No". I even let them listen to the message that the manager had left. But I was finally able to get that appliance at the price they quoted me because I did not let it go.

The contractor repaired a part and the service itself was very good. The furnace has been operating normally. However, my contract expires at the end of this week and I won't renew it. When I first bought the house, the warranty came with it, which was typical. And when I had an electrical issue and I repaired it myself, I realized that I should have called American Home Shield because I had coverage but that was within a week.
I called AHS and they told me to submit the receipt and they’d see what they could do. I submitted everything they asked for and they told me to follow up within a couple of weeks. I talked to a person a couple of times and after I kept following up, they never told me what they decided. They just said they would not reimburse me even a portion of my expense. So, I felt like it was fraud and the coverage was useless.
Hi, Ana. I hate to hear that you decided not to renew based on your reimbursement request. Unfortunately, the policy does not reimburse for work that was done outside of the policy without prior approval. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you.

The head of my garbage disposal was leaking and I submitted a claim for it online with American Home Shield. They were able to get a tech to contact me that same day. The tech brought a replacement and was able to fix and replace the garbage disposal on site. Now, everything’s all set. It was all taken care of under my warranty. I didn’t pay for anything and all worked out great.

I was very pleased with my American Home Shield experience. I usually contact them by phone when I submit a claim and I pay the payment when I make the appointment. The last claim I had was for the sink. And the last couple of times that the contractors did the service, I’ve been very pleased. They were knowledgeable even when I had the water heater.
The only problem was the warranty didn't cover all the extra steps even though they take part in the water heater. The contractor got a permit and everything else and that cost $75. So even though they took care of the water heater, it still cost me $600 because of the upgrade because they didn't pay for that. But the permit and stuff were normal and if I get a 40 gallons water heater replaced it's $1,300 out of pocket expense if I didn't have an insurance or the warranty. But I got by by paying $640.
They ended up putting a brand new hot water heater. All that the contractor did was replace some seals in the faucets. He had to change one of the fittings up there because he didn't have the seals to fit it. It was hard for me to get around a little bit so I just let them do it. The last couple of things had been good. I had them come one time because the faucets were leaking and they replaced seals and the faucets start leaking again and it was about four months. AHS has been fairly good. I had them out here one time for air conditioner but they got out two days later. In fact, the supervisor came and did mine and it was 7 o'clock at night. They were accommodating as much as they can be. I had good luck with AHS so far and I hope it stays that way.

The value of having a warranty on my property is indescribable as repairs can be very costly. Recently, the belt of my washing machine was off and it was weird. It made a really loud noise and it would stop in the middle of the cycle. Also, the dryer wasn’t drying the clothes and it was almost like something was grinding inside and there was some kind of a joint that went bad. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for that and my interactions with their claims rep were awesome. Then, the tech came within a half hour of the time he was supposed to be here. He was very nice and explained everything in detail. Everything is operating wonderfully now since the repair. I recommend American Home Shield all the time and I tell others how I have been happy for the whole 14 years I’ve been with them. Everything gets fixed right away and I never have any issues.

I went online to submit a claim for the vent with American Home Shield. Navigating through their website was good and I was able to submit the claim. A technician came out in two days and looked at it but I never heard anything back from anybody so I don't know if it was covered or not. Having a warranty is valuable as repairs get costly so American Home Shield is a good thing to have. I've had them for a year now, since I bought the house.

Over a year ago, I was working on my air conditioning unit to keep it from blowing a fuse, and American Home Shield resolved the problem. So far, I’m satisfied with the service that American Home Shield provided. The only one thing is that I would not like to use Total Air. They were one of the first providers to come out to attempt to work on my air conditioning unit and the issue was not resolved. I didn’t like having to go all the way through somebody in Florida, and sometimes when I talk to them, I had anywhere from a 25 to 30-minute wait time, and still didn’t get any satisfaction. Also, the reps were a little snippy. So it took two providers to resolve the issue. But if anybody needs repairs done, it’s better if they take out a home warranty and deal with American Home Shield because they are very courteous for the most part and they work with you to resolve the issues that you have. I’m just satisfied with them, and it was just unfortunate that I had that one little vendor.

My water well pump was shutting off and it was not pumping water. So I filed a claim online and then got a response from American Home Shield with the guy that wants to do the repair. He was the same person who did the same repair one year earlier. He came in a couple of days and made the repair. But when he started to leave, he was not giving me anything. I had paid the deductible upfront and I asked him for a receipt so I would know what had been done and he did give me that. Since then, I've had an issue with the pump. It stopped working again and if it goes off, I have to go outside and tap on the device to get it to click back on to pump the water. I called the technician a few days after the repair and left a message that I wanted to talk with him. That was a week ago but I haven't heard from him.
I've had some excellent experience with Home Shield on other issues though and I have recommended them several times. When I had issues with one of my central air conditioner units, the contractor was persistent and finally got everything working. I also had an issue with my microwave and the repair person was great. It was the same thing with the oven.

Every time I make a call to American Home Shield, it takes an hour to get a hold of them. Sometimes when they say they would call back, they wouldn’t and there’s no streamlined way to follow through a claim. I’m frustrated with their lack of availability. And not very much can be done with their online thing. You can schedule somebody to come out but you can’t really follow up on a claim or figure out where they are. There's so much that can't be done online that it's not that great. One time, I had a receipt that took me three weeks to get through them to find out where to mail it.
You're just doing with haphazard, whoever you get a hold of. And sometimes, they want very specific information that you don't have, like the exact model number. The appliances could be something that came with the house or that you bought 10 years ago. But you need the model number and they send people out to work on the fixtures. It’s just kind of disorganized and half the time they go, “We can’t fix it." And with the units they replace, most of the time, they won’t discuss the specifics in terms of size. So, you can’t really get a good idea of what they’re trying to send you until the very end.
I had a situation where they said they couldn’t fix my range. I tried to call them and it took hours and hours to get through to them and they said they were going to call me back. It was a holiday, so I replaced it. I had a new one delivered and I figured I would just cash out on it, whatever they would give me. But they said they couldn't determine what the unit was, even though somebody came out and fixed it. It was a GE Monogram but they couldn’t prove it was a GE Monogram. So, they wanted to give me 500 bucks for a $5,000 unit. Also, they erroneously recorded that they told me to take pictures of the thing and send it to them, which they never told me to do. But in some ways, it’s nice to be able to have somebody come out.

When I called to file a claim, the American Home Shield rep was a little short with me. It was impersonal and I felt like a transaction calling them. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience but she was efficient. The contractor that they sent was possibly one of the best contractors that I've had. Whatever American Home Shield does to screen their contractors, they did an excellent job. These guys were attentive and courteous. It was a really good experience with the contractors.
My ceiling fan was wobbling and my patio lights needed to be fixed, and the contractors came out twice. The first time, they found out that they had to go through drywall potentially and do some work. They had to get permission from American Home Shield before they could do something. They got the approval but they didn't wind up having to go through the drywall. They decided that they really didn’t have to and that they will just cover a replacement fan instead of having to get out a new one, so it worked out.

People don't realize that home ownership isn't cheap. You can't call a landlord and ask if he's going to fix a problem because you're the landlord. I got referred to American Home Shield by my mother and it's a warranty that has been proven. Everything that they do is great. I call American Home Shield a post-warranty insurance program because even though you've had something for 10 years, you could still get an insurance on it. They are all over the country and the warranty really works, so I've recommended it to a lot of people. I talked them up and told them that they needed it. It is the best thing in the world of insurance and insurance saves you a lot of money.
American Home Shield used to give a twice a year pre-service check on my AC, before the summer and the winter. But they discontinued it about two years ago because it was too costly. Now, I have to wait until something goes wrong with the AC before I can call in. I wish they would re-institute that policy again because in California where I am, you'd be going crazy if you didn't have an AC on. Last summer we had temperature at about 111 every day in two weeks. Then at that time when the AC would break down, everybody else's AC would be breaking down so the repair guys would be busy. So, the pre-service check was a good part of American Home Shield's service.
Other than that, I'm happy with them. When I had a problem with my stove, they gave me choices for its replacement. When the one that they sent didn't fit, they told me to put it aside and they sent another one. Then, when I had an issue with my refrigerator, the tech they sent out said that it wasn't his thing, so they could either replace the parts for that unit or American Home Shield would give me money so I could go get my own fridge and make up the difference. It would have been too ridiculous to pay that kind of money for a part so I told American Home Shield to send me the check and I went out and got a brand new refrigerator at a good sale over at Best Buy. Out of my pocket, it cost me a couple of hundred bucks. They also took care of my water heater which finally went out so it didn't cost me that much.
Recently, when my microwave wasn't heating up anymore, I called the 800 number for American Home Shield and they gave me the company that would be showing up. The contractor was great. He called and we set up a time. I asked him to come earlier and he did. Then he had the exact part in his truck for whatever was wrong with my microwave so he didn't have to order anything. He replaced the brand new part and he was in and out in 30 minutes.

Dealing with their rep went well, but she tried to send me somebody from Huber Heights and Beaver Creek which were a lot farther away from my house. I asked them if there was anybody closer and then they finally found someone who is part of their association and in West Carrollton where I live. And he was the one that finally came and he was very pleasant, knowledgeable, helpful, congenial and he explained how it went and so on. He fixed all the pipes and the handles. But I didn’t realize that the sink was leaking too and I found out that AHS didn’t cover the sink, so he didn’t fix the sink. I had to go out and buy a sink and redo it. Other than that, AHS was very good and I was very pleased with my experience.

He ordered a part and came back about a week later so we were without the washing machine for a week, but that part did not fix the problem. The guy felt that a second opinion was required by another contractor so he submitted that back to American Home Shield, then they sent out another contractor. I called American Home Shield about my cooktop and they had a claim, and the contracting company never showed up. We've been working with the two small burners for the past two or three months and when I checked the status, American Home Shield said the company did not respond. And then I have another issue with my heater. They said AC Wizard, an AC company, suggested that we replace the furnace. I thought my furnace was fixable but they went ahead and replaced it. They put a new heater, but they put the cheapest on the market without my consent and everybody was complaining about the unit. The heater was not working properly, and I called the contracting company twice. They came in and they checked and they said that there was nothing that they could do. It was either we upgrade the system or I need to call Home Shield because the heat has not been working the way it should and I got a $400 gas bill now.
For an upgrade, I wouldn't mind paying, but right now, they downgraded me. When I talked to the AC company, they charged about $2,500 for a brand new unit without American Home Shield. I paid $1,300 out of my pocket and American Home Shield was supposed to have paid for the unit and the labor which doesn’t really make sense. I'm not very happy with American Home Shield.

They came out when they said they would and when they had a delay, they called me and let me know. I’m very pleased. The first time they came out, it was running fine and then, the problem started back again so I had to call them back out. They came out and they found something in the line. And the faucet is working fine now. American Home Shield has been doing great.
On the other hand, they should stop growing up on the rate so much because it deters people from coming in. People have asked me about AHS and I’ve told them that the work and the people that they have come out are very good, but the price is a little steep for some people to pay monthly. With mine, it is $50.99 and then, it’s a $100 deductible, but with new people, they’re charging a little more. I have friends that tell me that they would have joined, but with the way the economy is now, it’s a little steep for their budget to do every month. Other than that, AHS is a great company and they always respond whenever I call. I have recommended them to several of my friends when they asked me about it.

Submitting claims over the phone can sometimes take an awfully long time. It was usually 20 minutes to half an hour. I got the response back saying that American Home Shield got my request for service and I will be contacted within 24 hours then the contractor contacted me.
The gentleman from Sears was wonderful and he got right to it. He listened to what I had to say and he told me what he thought the problem was. Then he looked at the machine and said that a part was needed. I got the parts in the mail yesterday and he said he'd be back tomorrow. I have to call and reschedule though. If something breaks, as long as the issue is covered by the warranty, I just call their 1-800 number and they arrange for everything else and do the rest of the effort. I was much comfortable in calling the reps. I told them my issue and it was pretty simple. They generally set me up with a contractor and I've never had a bad contractor. Although it wasn't the same contractors that I saw, I generally saw the same company that they worked with come out on an approval basis and I've worked with the Greenway company quite a bit.
Recently, I had an electrical issue in the house and four outlets quit working all at one time, and it turned out that a switch had gone bad. The contractor, Beacon Hill Electric, came out. Although I had never worked with Beacon before, their technician was fast and very personable. He walked me through what he was doing and all was good. American Home Shield has been doing everything pretty much as I asked them to do it. I'd recommend American Home Shield to everybody and I talk about them all the time. The first one is for the time and I can only choose one from the multiple choices available. They should have more options for that. Then, every time I call, it’s a long wait and I get different agents and representatives. Some of them tell me one thing but when I call back, they’re not in the know of what that last person had informed me with. Their representatives need to do a better job of saying what they’re going to do and document what they’ve told me. Also, sometimes they tell me that I’m not going to be charged but I end up being charged.
Recently, I filed one claim for my dryer and oven and they came out more than once to get those fixed. I was having a bit of difficulty having American Home Shield approve a heater furnace repair. After the original technician went out and gave the diagnosis, American Home Shield immediately called me and they said it was not approved because there's an issue with it and that it was pre-existing. It was a crack on the box which can happen anytime. Based on the age of the unit, it's common. I had to get another guy to go out. I had to call back and tell American Home Shield that I wasn’t satisfied with the outcome and that I wanted another opinion. They told me that I will have to pay for another service if the people who will check it again say that it was a pre-existing condition and if they say it was not preexisting, I didn't have to pay. I went back and forth with them for over a month now. I had to struggle with them and I finally got results. This is the first time I have this experience with them.
I got a message yesterday that it got approved after having tried since February 20th and I got to call them and find out the details. They're telling me that I have to come up with about $2,000 when that's why I'm paying for insurance and they're supposed to take care of it. In the message that I received, they itemized things such as $400 for this, $300 for that, $200 for that and that the total is going to be $2,024. According to them, there are certain items that are not covered by the repair and while that may be true, the total amount doesn’t seem right to me, but then again, I don’t know anything about these things.
In the future, once I finish this year’s contract, I'm probably not going to go with American Home Shield anymore based on this bad experience that I'm having. I was going to pursue this issue legally if they wouldn't come with a resolution, but it looks like we're coming to a resolution. I just have to dig into the details of the $2,024 and see if it's fair or not. I have to call other contractors and see if that is normal.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your furnace replaced as well as the noncovered cost associated. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve the issues.

That's when I filled out the service order online with American Home Shield. The technicians took 3 days to come out but they were professional and they texted me ahead of time, so they met my expectations. They replaced the thermostat but the temperature was less than whatever I was getting. Once they did the thermostat, I was only able to get it up to 86 which is 10 degrees less than what I had before. It was still coming on and still heating but it was coming up to less of the temperature that I had before. So, I had to do a recall. They tried to come to the property a couple of days ago but I didn’t unlock the gate so they're going to try to schedule again next week.

I turned my furnace on this fall when it got cool and it wouldn't kick in. The burners started but the fan didn’t kick in and circulated around the house. Submitting the claim to AHS online wasn't difficult at all. The only thing is once they let me know who is going to come fix it, I went online and found they had a really bad rating. I called AHS to see if I could change it to somebody else and they didn’t want to do that. They wanted to give them a shot. I said, "Let's just give them a whirl." It wound up working out okay, but I wasn’t too happy about that part. Then I had other questions about it down the road, like what did they actually replace the stuff with, and they said comparable stuff, but I was wondering how that worked out.
Additionally, I like to talk to people a lot of the time and as far as getting a hold of AHS on the phone to talk to somebody, they put me on this hold as all their people were busy. Maybe they were, but it took forever. The first time I tried, I didn’t get a call back for the longest time, so I called again and then wound up getting hooked up. I wish they could make it easier for customers to contact them.
Other than the idea that it seemed like there was nothing I could do about changing the contractor, it was the first time I'd ever dealt with AHS, and their rep was polite and everything worked out pretty good. I happened to be there the day the contractor came, which was great. He did a really nice job. He was very thorough, fixed the problem, and away he went. The furnace has been working fine since. If I were to recommend AHS, I would say ask more questions upfront than what I did when I first took on the policy. Another thing is I asked for a contract in writing and then went ahead to download it online, which wasn’t so bad.
Thanks for taking the time share your experience. We look forward to servicing you in the future.

I had a great and fantastic experience with American Home Shield. I had a pump in my swimming pool that went out. So I called it in and they dispatched somebody to call me back. It was a very smooth and rewarding process. The contractors came out to assess the situation. They had to order a part and when the part came in, they put it on. That part was working when they came out, but then, they had to come back because it stopped working within an hour. They had to come back three times before they got the issue resolved. There were no issues with them coming back out and the pump in my swimming pool performs like brand new since the repair.
I was very happy with AHS' customer service and their contractors. They've done a very good job of training their staff and picking the right contractors to represent their brand. I would recommend American Home Shield and I would tell people to do the entire package instead of just doing a small package because you never know.

My refrigerator was not making ice. I had to go buy bags of ice and during those times, it was warm. Also, my washer was making such a loud noise every time we wash clothes. It was so loud we can't hear the TV. I have a three-story house and the washer is on the top floor and I can hear it down in the basement. I filed one claim for both appliances with American Home Shield online right off my cell phone and it was very easy. The website is convenient and is very easy to access. I can just pick whatever item I need to claim and describe what the problem is and send it in. I had a quick response. I had the local repair company give me a call within 24-48 hours and they came out in less than 24-48 hours.
The tech attempted to fix the icemaker first by clearing the line but that did not work because it only made one tray of ice. Then he had to come back out because he had to reorder a whole new part inside the icemaker. Once he got that part in, which took about a week, he came back out and replaced it and it has been doing fine since then. He told me that the washer’s bearings are gone and that according to AHS, they won’t replace it unless it stopped. So, I got to deal with all these loud noise every time I wash clothes until the thing stopped. I just wish that AHS comes with a different rule with their washer because it's very irritating. Their limitation on what they will and will not fix deters me a little bit. Other than that, it's a very good company and I recommend AHS to a friend.

I asked if he was sure he knew what he was doing and apparently he did. He was able to repair it and he did it that day. It was very scary not to have heat. I have had e-heat and we were at almost zero degrees so I was pretty happy. I got a topnotch service and I've recommended American Home Shield several times.

We’ve always had great luck with our home warranty and we've talked to our kids who have houses, to try and convince them to sign up for American Home Shield as well. They do a good job. They’re fast and they have good companies working for them. We had issues with one group of people they sent out and I think everybody was having issues as well and American Home Shield no longer uses them now. Aside from them, the other people American Home Shield uses do a great job and are always friendly. We've usually had a heating or air conditioning question and they always send the same people out. The heater quit last time where the power would light but the fan wouldn’t start blowing, and the technicians were out there the same day. It took them 10 minutes to fix the problem and it was great. Everything works out good with American Home Shield.

My washing machine wasn’t spinning for a couple of months. I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield and that was quick and easy. I just went online and put up what I needed to get done and gave the instructions of what was going on. They assigned me to a company and the company called me for an appointment. I gave them the name of the washing machine and the model number.
When they came, they greeted me and they told me what they needed to do. There was a switch that needed to be replaced on the door because the door wasn’t locking right. That’s why it wasn’t spinning. They already had the part in hand and within an hour, they were able to fix the washing machine. It was a two-day process from the time I put the claim in online until they came. My experience with AHS been great. I've only had two jobs done and both jobs were done quickly and simple, especially when you just have to do it online to set up the appointment. That makes it a whole lot easier instead of trying to call and wait until somebody answers the phone.

I always file claims online and American Home Shield's website is easy and super simple to navigate. The contractors that have been sent out are great. We had a problem one time a couple of years ago with a contractor, and I reported it to American Home Shield. AHS doesn't use that contractor anymore. Recently, our washing machine had a problem. American Home Shield sent someone out to come and fix the switch on it, and the machine has worked great ever since. AHS has done exactly what they said they'd do, they do it quickly, they get someone there and they've been easy to work with. I'd tell my friends to go with them in a heartbeat and have an insurance on their home like that for all the things that could break down. It is worth having and it has saved us money. I'm not a handy person and so it's been a very good thing for me and my family. We've had a very good experience with AHS and I think very highly of them.

My granddaughter called American Home Shield out and it took a couple of days for them to send someone out, but it only took a couple of minutes to fix it and that was a good thing. It’s working fine since the repair.
However, I had somebody out here before that didn’t want to do the job. I complained about their service but nobody from AHS did anything and I was charged $75 for the contractor to come out. There was a stoppage in my kitchen in the sink area and he gave me a bill for $5000 and said he had to dig underneath. He was trying to rip me off. My granddaughter’s husband fixed it for me and did the Roto-Rooter thing. The contractor didn’t even try to do it. He had a handheld device and that was not sufficient to do anything. He didn’t have the right equipment and that pissed me off. I hate the idea of paying them $75 for being a jackass and not doing their stuff. On the other hand, American Home Shield was very professional.

I have been with American Home Shield for two years now and they have always been good. They always take my claims and handle them on time. I filed a claim for my appliance and the company they assigned it to was on time and they called me before they arrived at the appointment. After that, I called AHS due to a leak in my bathroom with the hose. They put my claim on time in a nice manner and sent me an email, but the subcontractor that AHS worked with took one week to give me an appointment which was not professional. If you call somebody to fix one problem, it should be in the next 24 or 48 hours. If not, then things will be worse. I'm going to have a flooding in the house before they come in to fix it.
I called AHS and canceled that claim because I couldn't wait for one week for somebody to fix the leaks in the bathroom. I called another plumber and paid out of my pocket. AHS has to be careful in choosing the company they are to work with. Other than that, everything was good. The people at AHS are always nice and responsible. Their customer service is polite all the time and they try to fix issues. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

My submersible well pump had been in for about 30 years and it basically died so I needed a new one. I submitted my claim online and had no problems with it at all. It’s always nice to talk to somebody but doing it over the phone is a hassle because I can never get through to anybody. It’s over an hour to wait and that’s ridiculous. But the process from submitting the claim online can take a while to get through to the contractors so I called the contractor, KP Ventures, to put them in the picture of what was going on. I left them a voicemail and they were out there the following day.
They first came out in January and replaced the pressure switch. It worked okay for about another month then they came out again and got it working but it kept tripping out. Even when turning on the water to clean my teeth, it would trip out. They advised me that it needed to be replaced so when I put the application in, they already had a fair idea of what was needed. They came out and took care of it. They were really good and it's a great company.
I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield as well and I would certainly recommend them over the previous company that I was with, First American. I had the same coverage I got with American Home Shield but it was almost double the cost. AHS has the best reviews online too. I’ve had this policy because everything eventually breaks down. I’ve been loyal to American Home Shield and I pay it every month. But I think they avoid doing a replacement because of their money. I have a home that was built 30 years ago and the contractors come and do as little as possible. They keep repairing the same burners when they should replace the whole thing and every time they come out, it’s a $75 charge. It has always been that way and I’m lucky that my things don’t break. They did replace my microwave and oven a few years back. But they had no choice because they couldn’t get parts and repair it. They couldn't buy the same model anymore. Right now my refrigerator, which is 20 years old, is starting to leak and it is definitely going to go to pot. I’ll see how they respond to that.

We were having a big party and I needed both ovens. He guaranteed that he’d have it fixed by then and he did.
I also spoke with AHS reps for my ref. I'm with real estate and Lisa is my rep in my office. She goes through a different line for the realtors, so usually she just tells me to call her and she'll put the call through. It makes filing the claim really easy. When I sold my son his house last year, Lisa saw that it was my son and she called him and she gave my son her personal number. The business line makes customers wait a long time, so she said that if he ever had to call them and he was on the phone for more than 10 minutes, hang up and call her. American Home Shield hit the jackpot with her. I tell all of my clients that American Home Shield is the best.

I filed a claim with AHS for the furnace of a rental home. I did it online but I spoke to the technician when the technician was there because the lady leasing the house got me in contact with him. Everything went perfect except that when you manage so much to save for a house their expectations are very high. Technician was great the way he performed but he couldn’t give me a better date about when he ordered the part and when he would come back and make the machine work.
So the lady who leased on the house kept calling me. I said “Look, I don’t have an answer.” Then she would give me a timeframe. It’s different in your own house but when the person is paying rent to you they don’t want to wait. The fact of the matter was the delay of the part because the machine was old. The manufacturers are out of town. So I think they have to find a better way to keep us informed about it.
The timeframe in between visits was about a couple of weeks or more. Usually they call somebody local and I know they sub-contract. And usually the local person would say “Okay, I’m going to come back in two, three or four days because I ordered the part from x and y or Amazon.” If you order a part, it’s just day or night shipment and you get it done ASAP. So overall the technician knew what he was doing. The technician found the problem right away. But between the time that he assessed then found the problem and the time he ordered the part it was too long.

I was changing the filter and I noticed a leak in the pool pump and it was spraying so much water that it was flooding a third area of my yard. It’s not good since it was draining the pool water and if the water gets too low, that can cause a major problem too so I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. When the pool guy came to look at the pump, my boyfriend was there and he told us that it needed to be replaced and advised us of the time when he would come back. He also helped with this other issue that we were having with the pool that I didn’t submit a claim for and he didn't make a big deal. I had an automatic vacuum through the back. It was not suctioning very well and I thought it had something to do with the pump too. He told us the part that we needed and we ordered and paid for it on our own. He told us it was cheaper than ordering it through a pool company.
When the pool guy came back to install the pump, it was kind of funny because I got a service saying it’s been completed. I didn’t know they were coming for that part and because the pump could be accessed on our house outside, he went ahead and installed it. When I got home and went outside, there was a new pump. That was cool.
I first claimed from American Home Shield over the phone for my washer and found it a lot easier to do the claim online. I got a text from the service provider within a couple of minutes from when the claim was submitted. They were very communicative and scheduled me within a couple days. It was very efficient. However, the company that came to fix my washer was a different story because they came four times. Each time they came, I had to take off work to explain the problem again. I went without a washer for three months.
It took the fourth technician to report what the problem was. They replaced something with the motor in the wrong area that even the fourth technician was disappointed with his own company that the first technician didn’t do it appropriately. Then I got this random thing from American Home Shield saying that the washer was going to be replaced. If they fixed it right the first time, then American Home Shield wouldn’t have to buy a new washer. Plus, I had to call them back a lot.
Once we already submitted the claim, it was hard to call back in on that same appliance to update or share what was going on. I have a limited time during my work hours a day to talk to somebody and each time I would try to log on or call, they would think that it was a new claim. They were saying that they were going to order a part then there was a delay on that part and then they were saying they were short staffed. I would refer friends to American Home Shield but it would be better to get more information on what’s going on with the repair and taking action to call after the second visit from a service person.

There was some issue in getting the appliance out for service though. The way it was installed previously, it was very hard to get it out of its place but since the repair, its performance has been good.

My washer was spinning uncontrollably whenever we turned the machine on and the spin cycle. I called AHS to submit a claim and it was a little hard because it took a long time to get to somebody. However, the contractor was professional and knowledgeable. He came out here and assessed the situation. He didn't bring the part he needed so he had to order it. He then came back a week later and fixed it.
Beom,
I would like to thank you for allowing American Home Shield to service your washer machine and replace the part that was needed to correct the malfunction. I hope that you continue to have a good experience.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for four years and every time I need them, they’re there. I submitted a claim for my hot water heater. The contractor that they sent was very nice. He said, “I got to order all these parts because it’s an old hot water heater.” So, he had to order the new pieces to join the pipe and he said as soon they have that, they will replace it. I’m very satisfied with AHS. It’s the best thing to have. You also don’t have to worry about having a big payment that’s one time. I recommend all my friends to AHS and my sister is with them too.

Every time we've had a claim with American Home Shield, it has gone pretty smoothly. Recently we submitted a claim online for our washing machine and it was easy to do. Someone came out and did the repairs. He said the machine was old and it has a little bit longer to last and eventually would need to be replaced. But it seems to be working okay. The technician is from Accord Appliance and they've come out a couple of times for different appliances, and they're fine. I've recommended AHS to other people. I've told them what we have and that we've used it for different things, so it's paid for itself.

We bought the home in December and the previous owner told us something was wrong with the AC unit. He did not know what it was but he had fixed it several times and he was tired of jacking with it. That was one of the reasons why they purchased our American Home Shield. They knew that would need to be fixed. I submitted a claim online through my account with American Home Shield. Then I got an email in 30 minutes telling me they had already sent the information over to Ausco Air and that someone would be in touch with me shortly. Ausco Air reached out to me the very next day and we scheduled for Randy to come out and take a look at what was going on to see exactly what was wrong with that particular unit.
He was very professional and he explained everything to us once he figured everything out. He was even puzzled why the previous people who came out and looked at the unit didn't see what was wrong because he found the problem quickly after going up into the attic. He explained that the compressor kept burning out because they didn't put the correct part. Apparently, it was a three-ton system and they put a compressor that could only handle a two-ton system. So when you're running it in the heat of the summer, it would burn out because it can't keep up with the load.
Randy had to speak to American Home Shield first to see what would be covered. Then he also had to order a part because this house was built in the '80's so he also said a lot of the parts that were up in the attic needed to be replaced with newer and better things because they were way out-of-date and out of code. When American Home Shield got all the information, they called me and left a really long message about codes and how much they would cover for each code violation. It was very detailed.
They replaced the coils, the ducting and another part that was not cheap. It's essentially a brand new system up in the attic aside from the outer parts and the fan. The fan was still fine and it didn't need to be replaced but Randy said it might eventually because it's old. I've been pleased with American Home Shield so far and hopefully that continues to be a trend. We had never used our service before and we were a bit skeptical that it would be worse than the $800. But it has basically paid for itself at this point. If we had paid out of our pocket, we were told it would be like five to six grand. We only paid $1,150 out of that, which it still not cheap-cheap but it was way cheaper than it would've been.

We couldn't get water out of our refrigerator and I called American Home Warranty. The reps were very pleasant and put our order in. We then heard within a day from the company that they had contracted with to come out. The contractor replaced the heater to keep the line but that didn't work. He thought it was a faulty part so he replaced it again. He had to be creative but now we have cold water so we're perfectly happy.
We also filed a claim online for our air conditioner that was making a lot of noise. I got into my account and it asked me if I wanted to submit a work order. I then filled out which appliance I was submitting a claim for and then they made me pay my $75 fee upfront. In the past, we've had a warranty on our home and we got fly-by-night kind of people working on our stuff. It never panned out very well. But AHS has been very upfront with getting people and they seem to have hired really good people. They're worth it.

I called American Home Shield to file claims for my gas oven in which the broiler wasn’t working and for an icemaker that was shooting off too much ice. The first rep tried to get GE appliance for me because all my appliances are General Electric and I had such good service with GE repair. She tried three times to get through to them. A tech named Joey came in about 10 days and he was fantastic. He fixed the broiler and the icemaker. He was very informative and I was very pleased.
However, I had to call them back though because the oven wouldn't heat during that time. The tech came out again and changed a part that was needed to start the flame. It was covered under the 60-day recall with AHS, so we didn’t pay any additional fee for the contractor to come out a second time. AHS has been great. We've had them for about 5 years now and I did an Excel spreadsheet of all the times they've come to our house. What it actually cost us for AHS service calls and the amount of repair that it would have cost us had we not have AHS and the savings was unbelievable. In the last two years, AHS has improved tremendously. We've already referred friends to AHS. My husband's cousin and his wife who live in the state of Wisconsin took it out on our recommendation. We also referred it to another friend who also took it out.

I had a broken refrigerator and I submitted my claim online. I've used the AHS site a few times. The contractor that they hired was Sears and that was horrible and it was a big fiasco with them. But through American Home Shield, they did everything they possibly could to fix the situation. But the freezer was broken for about a month. Somebody came out, they diagnosed what they thought was the problem, they ordered a part, the part showed up then nobody else ever showed up. I kept on getting canceled. My appointment would get dropped and they'd get rescheduled but nobody would ever show up.
I came to find out by the time somebody actually showed up, it was probably a five-minute fix and none of the parts that they ordered had to be replaced. Through American Home Shield, everything that they did was great. The lady from AHS was on the phone with me and Sears to try and get the situation fixed. She did a great job and she definitely understood my frustrations. Now, the refrigerator is still working. Overall, AHS seems to be a pretty reasonable price.

I filed a refrigerator claim but the people who came out said that American Home Shield probably won’t fix it. The fan still works but it was really loud. It sounded like a jet engine. They said that since it's not broken, they can't do anything about it. I asked them to put in the claim or at least ask American Home Shield if they would try to fix the fan. And he said he would try to submit a request to have it switched out but I guess they never did. I never got a call about it.
But this was my first claim that wasn’t fixed. Others were and it’s usually the same contractors that come for the appliances. They've checked with the dishwasher, the microwave, the refrigerator and the washing machine, and they’ve been pretty nice. All of my claims had been submitted online and most of the time, the technician gets here either the next day or the day after. If I put in the claim the morning, I usually get a call that day to schedule the service for the next day or the next coming couple of days.

There was no heat coming out of my furnace. I've heard from everybody that calling in is pretty hopeless with American Home Shield. So, I filed a claim online, which is a lot faster. Then somebody from American Home Shield sent an email stating that someone would get with me within 24 hours from some company out of Ohio which upset me to no end because Lexington is full of good people that would have come out and don’t even charge extra to work on a Sunday. So, I had to sit overnight with no heat as the contracting company came at about 9:30 Monday morning. Apparently, it's an Ohio company that has local representatives, but I've never heard of them before. And I've lived here 40 years. So, I was a little dubious going into it, but they did fine.
The contractor was so nice. He checked the unit underneath the house and brought up the broken parts, showed it to me, said he had one of the parts on the truck and that he could get that replaced. And when he came into the house to check where the cold air returned, he put little booties on which I told him he didn’t have to, but he did it anyway. He was very considerate. They were in and out pretty fast, and it was firing up and it's been working fine. I would have liked American Home Shield to use somebody local that could have gotten to me that afternoon. Fortunately, my house didn’t get below about 58, but it was pretty cold that Sunday. Had it been the worst weather and had it happened in January, I could have been running around trying not to have my pipes freeze all night.

Two of the plugs in my electric box didn’t work. When I submitted a claim online, the AHS site was okay but they didn’t get back with me until I called them four months later. I submitted the claim in November. I had a new baby so it went to the holidays and my birthday and I just never got back with them to see why no one had come. So then I gave them a call and they apologized. What happened was that the company they had me was not in operation anymore. They made up for it, waived my $80 deductible and got someone out here.
When the contractor arrived, our dealing was easy. He looked at everything and told me what he thought it was. He went up to the attic, fixed the problem then told me what he did. Overall, that was my first bad experience with AHS but they're not worse than the rest of the home insurance companies. Having a warranty is valuable and I use it as a tool for budgeting. If I need to budget home repairs, it's good because I pay every month but I don't have to pay a lot at once.

My microwave wasn’t working, so I called American Home Shield. When I submitted my claim, my interaction with the rep was fine and he said they'd get right on it. I had a prompt callback from a place that sent a workman out here because the microwave is built-in. The workman was an expert and he walked over to the microwave, hooked up a little instrument to it, and then he told me what was wrong. He said he had to go out to the car to get a part, then he went out and got it. He came back in, changed the part, and lickitty split, he was gone.
It was interesting how things all came together because it was going to be another week before my policy with American Home Shield ran out and I had forgotten that the microwave might be covered by the policy. I was up for renewal of my policy and my experience with that claim convinced me that the policy was worth it. So, not only did they fix the problem, but they also called back because I said I wanted to wait and see, and I renewed my policy with American Home Shield. It was a very satisfactory experience and I was very happy.

Our air conditioner drain was not working but it wasn’t very serious. It was something that had been fixed before and my wife was shown how to drain it so that got fixed. But the first time the repairman came out from American Home Shield, he said the drain was clogged again. He blew it out then a couple of weeks later, another guy came out. He said it was the exact same problem but there was something that was not done about the corner of the plastic pipe. It should have been reconstructed in a different way. Apparently, my wife was draining the pipe but the drain itself wasn’t pumping in the turning part of the drain. So the tech rebuilt the turn in the drain and ever since then, the drain has been fine.

The realtor who sold me the house bought me this American Home Shield home warranty for a year. And she told me that if I could arrange for my re-keying through them, it’ll be cheaper and that’s what I did. Everything went fine with submitting the claim, and the guy showed up like he was supposed to. He was lost, but it was okay. He did his job and he was very efficient. He said that he only brought one key so he needed to go back to his shop and get some more keys. I wasn’t living in the house and I just had to go there and meet him. He said that he'll be back in 45 minutes while I might run out and do an errand so we had an arrangement where he could go into the garage, in the people door, and just leave the keys in the garage. And then when he leaves, he would lock the door but he wouldn’t be able to lock the deadbolt.
So I went off and did my errands. I came back in about a half hour and he hadn’t come back. I waited for about half an hour. So now, it’s been an hour and a half, and he never came. And I had another appointment I had to go through so I had to leave. I live about 30 miles from there, and my children lived closer. I asked my children to go to the house that night and see if the keys were there. They went and they said the keys weren’t there. The guy hasn’t called me or anything.
The next day, I had to go back to the house for something else. It was in the morning because I had an appointment with somebody else who was going to do something. And the keys still weren’t there. I called him when I left the house that day when he hadn’t been there. I got a machine and I left a message. That night when my children said the keys were not there, I called him as well. He never responded to me. So when I got to the house the next morning and the keys were still not there, I called him again. And that time, I got a person. They said they will come in a half-hour. And they did come about noon with the rest of the keys. He had me try them out and gave them to me and then he left.
He could have called and told me that he hasn’t forgotten me and he was going to make good on it. I don’t know this guy from anywhere and now he’s running around Eugene with a bunch of my house keys. I’m almost 80 years old so I’m a little paranoid. It all worked out okay but the process was just a little frustrating. And that wasn’t really American Home Shield's fault. It was the guy's fault. Everything as far as American Home Shield was concerned, they did what they were supposed to do.

I use the warranty on a vacation rental home where I didn’t have heat for a period of time when I had people staying there and it was very cold outside. It took time because of their process. There was another time where I had a hot water heater go out and they had to get a second quote. I had to put people on a hotel as a result because AHS' claims process was taking so long. I had a guy who could fix it and he was ready, but AHS wanted the second quote and it was unreasonably delayed. I called American Home Shield and made the appointment for our air conditioner. They told me I could pay the person who fixed the unit and I paid them. Unfortunately, I might have made a mistake and paid cash because I was in a hurry. They never reported to AHS and I called American Home Shield why I kept getting the bill. American Home Shield then called them and said, “Oh, it was paid." But their accounting department never followed through and followed the paperwork that it was paid. I'm out $75 because their accounting department or their provider could not get their act together and report the payment. And when something else came up wrong, I couldn’t get any service until I pay the $75.
I ended up having to pay the bill so I could get service on something else in the house and I'm out $75 because AHS doesn't know how to do proper claims. They don’t train their employees properly to fill out the proper paperwork so the claim can be sealed and done. And their clients still get bills saying, “You owe money, you owe money, you owe money,” which then affects the client's credit. Also, that repairman didn’t get the job the done. He just temporarily did a stop-gap fix and went on his way. It came undone after the 90 days when the warranty was up. So, I had to do another claim for the air conditioner and the next guy took over and fixed it. Their providers are a little shoddy also.
When we first bought the house and got the warranty, it was the first one that was messed up and everybody was full of excuses. And to my understanding talking to other clients of American Home Shield, it's a regular thing. Also, I'm not completely dissatisfied because they have a good electrician because I've had three other calls. But I don’t think I'd really want to say, “Hey, they're great,” anymore because they screwed me out with $75.

We had two light fixtures that weren’t coming on and an electrical outlet wasn’t working. The electrical company that American Home Shield sent out came a day early, which was surprising but that was fair. It was a simple fix. There was a light switch that was having to be pushed in and the guy fixed it quickly and went on his way. Also, we had a conversation with him and it made me feel comfortable. Everything's excellent and working perfectly.

We made a claim with American Home Shield for the dishwasher and they fixed it. We submitted the claim on the phone and they came out well. The contractors were very nice, they came out quickly and the dishwasher has been working since the repair. The rubber on the dishwasher's door needed to be replaced and the contractor put it in there but it was hard to close the dishwasher door. The contractor said it would be that way for a while and will be loosened up as the dishwasher was used. We have it as a rental and they haven’t complained about it, so it’s okay.

We called AHS for our AC. The contractor they sent came very promptly and were terrific. The issue turned out to be nothing much. From the constant vibrations, some of the screws that covered the top had been shaken off. They then replaced the screws in two minutes. So far, we have had minor things, like the microwave. Bottom line, we have been happy with American Home Shield.

Day 1 (3/23/2018) After checking Google pop up ratings, I thought they are one of the best. How wrong was I? After I signed up and made a payment, the lady on the phone started rattling about policy not covering existing conditions, manufacturer defects, etc. How am I supposed to know existing condition or not? Who is going to decide it is an existing condition? I realized that this is a bad deal from the beginning. A little late to cancel on Friday evening as they are on central time zone.
Day 2 (3/26/2018) I decided to call and asked them to cancel my contract within 30 days as stated on the contract. The guy on the phone said that some problem with their system and he couldn’t confirm that it has been canceled. He gave me a number to call the next day to confirm about cancelation. This is Monday evening. Day 3 (3/27/2018) I called the next day morning and asked about confirmation, the guy on the phone started a sale pitch; I told him that I don’t have time to listen to his sale pitch and I already decided and asked him to send me a confirmation about cancelation. He said that I will get a confirmation email within 24 hours.
Day 4 (3/28/2018) The number they initially gave me (800) 858-1922 is always busy and couldn’t get through. How convenient to avoid your unhappy customers? So I called their main number. The lady said that the contract was canceled yesterday (3/27/2018). I said that I need my email confirmation. She said that they are old school and they sent out a letter yesterday. WOW! They have my information and emailed me about my contract before. Now they are saying that they can’t do email confirmation? Is that a delay tactic to trap you in the 30 days cancelation policy? Whenever I call, they confirm my name, address, email and phone number but they can’t use them? I will update if I receive a letter.
Hello, Stephen. I can definitely understand your concerns regarding items and systems being covered. I do wish that someone could have gone over the policy in better detail with you. If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I have been with American Home Shield for over 10 yrs. Lately in the last 3 yrs the service sucks. I have a broken toilet since October 2017, AHS sent a company out, 3 times and the problem hasn't been resolved. Thank God I have other bathrooms to use. AHS has been giving me the runaround for months. I have been calling and always someone was suppose to me back.
This has been going on since Oct 2017, and still a broken toilet to this day. Not only is my toilet is broken... my central air unit has been broken also. I had to cover $1600 to get a coil replaced. This is on top of paying the numerous service request fee, due to the Freon kept leaking out. AHS only covers 10.00. I am writing this review, because I feel like a homeowner, I have no money to waste on a company that doesn't care about the consumers that keep them in business. I am a single mother, and the reason I purchased this plan so I can have someone to fix repairs without repeated problems.
I trusted AHS to provide contractors that know what they are doing, and not shabby work. This a fair warning to anyone trying to get a warranty with this company, you might not get what you pay for. I have decided to save my money, in a separate account just for home repairs. The money I gave AHS for service fees and monthly charges over the last 10 yrs, I could had a new bathroom with all new plumbing by now.

If you are looking for a home warranty company that will provide peace of mind if unexpected things happen to your home, sadly American Home Shield is not the answer. Do yourself a favor and find another home warranty company! I’ve dealt with American Home Shield for nearly a month trying to get a refrigerator fixed at my home and it still has yet to be resolved. They hire Sears to perform the service on my refrigerator, however after three visits to the home and two delays waiting for parts, AHS is unwilling to just replace the appliance. When you call AHS, they give you excuse after excuse why it hasn’t been completed, the customer service reps ask you why you are calling and not the property manager!
Let that sink in... A customer service rep of a company I currently pay money towards is asking me the customer why I’m calling about my home and not the property manager! Are you kidding me! On other calls, the customer service rep refuses to send my calls to a supervisor, even after repeated attempts to escalate this issue. AHS does not care to maintain your home, but simply is looking for your money and cheap fixes to problems. STAY AWAY! Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this company. Home Advisor is free and does not charge you a monthly fee and a service call charge every time they come to your home.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We filed a claim for the furnace recently because it just didn't work. When the technician came, he disassembled the furnace and said that it needed to be replaced. So, we submitted all of the paperwork and photos to American Home Shield and they agreed that the furnace had to be replaced. But what they were asking us to pay was what I would have to pay anywhere else to get a complete new system. So, we called them and told them that if a new system costs $2,200 and they were asking me to pay $1,900, the benefit of $300 is completely useless. Why would I pay for insurance for almost $75 per month, plus a $75 basic fee, and then have to pay all of that stuff? The benefit is less than $150 and that's ridiculous.
They said that we could go to whomever we wanted and there was a cash-out option. This was completely stupid, in my opinion, and we told them to do that. But the cash out option they offered was close to $450 only. They said that they have an agreement with the contractors or the technicians, where they have a special pricing which is what they were giving us. And then, most of the cost of the things that will not be covered by the home insurance is charged to the customer. So they were saying that it was either I pay $1,900 or I get $450 and it's my problem. But either option wouldn't be able to solve my problem, so I was completely dissatisfied. We went thereon for a couple of months and then we just canceled the whole thing.
I used American Home Shield only a couple of times, and half of the time, it was a smooth experience. The other half was a time-consuming, multiple-call experience, where I had to keep calling any contractor for a second opinion. It was very bad, so in the end, we decided to not continue with it because it was more painful than really helping us. We have been with American Home Shield since January 2015 and I'm surprised our experience with them lasted that long. I am definitely not recommending them.

However, I did not appreciate having to wait over the weekend to get a water heater that was down at Lowe’s. I had an electric issue last summer and recently, I've had a garage door spring that was broken. I'm a realtor so I have a relationship with the representative so I just called her and she called it in for me. The garage door guy was great. I tried to file a claim for my dryer today because it stopped heating. In the policies I sell to my clients, they all have the coverage so I assumed that I have that same coverage. However, it wasn't clear that the dryer wasn't covered under my policy and I wished it was. So when I got to make a claim, they told me that I am under the old policy and they only want to renew me because I had made a previous claim. I had exceeded their dollar limit so I wasn’t a possible client anymore and they weren’t going to renew me.
Because I sold a lot of the policies every year, the rep got me involved and got American Home Shield to make an exception and cover me but I didn’t know that that exception wasn’t the same coverage that I'm currently selling to my clients. So now, I'm left to go buy a new dryer. I understand there are no perfect warranties out there.

American Home Shield is top-shelf. My wife works at the McCarran and she has a couple of guys down there that told her she needed to invest in home warranty insurance and we did. AHS is one of the best insurances we’ve ever bought. Our experience and their customer service have been great. They came and fixed two repairs and they did it in a timely fashion and made it happen. I submitted the claims right over the phone and I had a couple of hiccups. I just gave them the policy number and let them know. The easy thing is, when I let them know what it is, they'll give me a claim number. Once they give me the work order number, they'll let me know exactly who’s going to do the work. I would wait about ten minutes, call the company and let them know exactly what happened.
They let their field person bring the part with them and then, they don’t have to make a run. They can at least bring a couple of things with them and they can possibly fix it right there and then. The last two times, it was the hot water heater. When I let the secretary know, she said she'd let the guy know. Instead of putting me off until the next day, the guy was in the neighborhood. They told him exactly what’s going on. I gave him a heads up and let him know what it was over the phone. He said that I saved him a lot of time instead of coming over. He said he would get back to the office to snatch the part. He came by and sure enough, he had the thermocouple with him.
He broke the whole thing down and took him about an hour to get me up and running. No gas leaks, fired the hot water heater up and he was done. Some people may not be knowledgeable like that, but I helped him out. It’s a hook up for the people that come out here. It saves them money for him having to run around an extra hour and that some people don’t know the field. The house is 23 years old and we just bought all brand-new equipment. We bought a brand-new stainless steel refrigerator two years ago, a brand-new front-load washing machine and a dryer. That has about ten years on it, but the main ticket items are the air-conditioner and the heater.
For insurance purposes, AHS is the way to go and the guys down at work, they swear by it. At McCarran Airport, they say that AHS is the best insurance we can get. Whoever American Home Shield hires, they’re qualified, they guarantee their work and the people don’t give you the runaround. They get the job done and they’re very professional about what they do. They said it’s worth the weight in gold. They also said that even if you have to pay the $41 a month and you don’t use it for a year, if one of the big ticket items fails on you, they will come, back it up and take care of it. No questions asked and you’ll be on your way so, it was a great investment.
Wow! Thanks Dave. We appreciate you taking time to share your experience. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

It was a nightmare with AHS. The heater was disconnected because it was leaking to the pool and AHS said they might cover that and they would send somebody out. They sent somebody out and they said, “It’s disconnected. How can we test this?” And I said I paid the pool people to disconnect it ‘cause it was leaking. Then they said if I could pay the pool people to connect it back and then AHS would come back. I said okay.
I forgot that I already paid the hundred dollars to American Home Shield to come out and I said, “This may work out well. He was so nice. He didn’t even charge me.” Then I saw my email and of course he charged me, so I paid him a hundred dollars. I forgot it was a hundred for the pool people to come out. So, he wanted me to have the pool people come out just to connect it and he would test it and I said, “No. Thank you.” Hundred dollars here and there, and a hundred back, and then a hundred again, and see if they could fix it? No, I’m not gonna do that back and forth. I paid 600 and something that year and nothing worked out.
But I thought everybody and the guy that came out were nice. And I think if they had told me in the beginning that it had to be connected for them to come back, I would’ve understood that. But I still don’t know how you do that in a timely way. There was poor communication. You have to have the pool people here to disconnect it and then for Home Shield to show up right then or you’ll have a problem with it leaking. I don’t think that’s so good. I guess that could be bad for anything, a water heater, or a stove.

I submitted the claim with American Home Shield for our dishwasher over the phone. The granite countertop was too cold and the control was a heating control that was right underneath that countertop so when the steam would hit it, it would drop moisture down on the control and the control burnt out. It just kept running and it got hotter and hotter. That almost caused a fire. Luckily, I caught it. I called GE and they sent me parts for it, but it was basically totaled. Then they tried to give me a dishwasher for about $400 or $500. I had a GE Café top-of-the-line dishwasher, which is around $1,100. I had to talk to supervisors and 24 hours after talking to them, they approved the more expensive one, which was apples for apples. In the end, I was happy.
However, the reps don’t know their own policies on some things. When I had the garage door fixed, they kept telling me it wasn’t under warranty. Then at the last minute, the rep said she'll check with the supervisor. I'm getting the feeling these people are sitting in their houses and don't have the policy. They're just taking the call for American Home Shield. Then the rep went ahead and finally got approval, but at that point, my garage door was halfway open for two days. I have tools and whatnot in my garage, so I called the repair guy. It came out almost $500 and the repair guy they sent out said he could do it for $100, but he lied about it. A service call won't be a $100 and I only got $120 out of that $500, so I wasn’t too happy on that situation.
The policy is only four or five pages and it states what's covered right on there. I literally had to argue with them about their garage door coverage for a couple of hours. But, whoever I dealt with with the dishwasher, they took care of me. Also, the service of the contractors is good. They get their $75 service right through American Home Shield now and they limit my things. If I had a washing machine I’ve got issues but I also had a dryer with some issues, and I think that he can look at the dryer since he’s here, that’s a separate service call. They want that extra $75. Same thing if I have two air conditioning units. They will work on one, but not the other one, and I wasn’t too happy about that part of it.
Depending on who answers the phone, they can be helpful or they may not be that helpful. They need to know their own policy and what's actually covered in the warranty. They're not trained well-enough on that. Still, I recommend American Home Shield to some of my friends who buy new houses, especially if the house is anywhere between 8 to 10 years old. I'm in Arizona and you're going to have problems with appliances, air conditioning, all kinds of stuff from the dust and the heat here. Whenever I recommend AHS, I use my dishwasher as an example. I tell my friends, “If you got appliances that cost more than 500 bucks, basically, if that appliance goes in a year, it covers the warranty because you pay 59 bucks a month times 12. That's like $650 or whatever it is.” It pays for itself. But, if I have a friend who has all new appliances or brand new AC, I'd tell them that they don't need it.

I couldn't get my garage door to open up. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield via phone and my interaction with the claims representative was very good and I got my job done. The person explained to me that I may have a problem in them reimbursing me or for them to cover the charges until the person from the garage door opening, Mr. Garage Door, looks at the problem to see what it was. It turned out it was a broken spring. It took about 24 hours for a technician to come out here and he was very good and very professional. He knew exactly what to do and he had it fixed in a short period of time. Everything has been good since the repair.
I am very satisfied with American Home Shield. However, it's something that my wife and I are debating whether or not we want to continue it since they raised the fee for the technician to come to the house. I don't know if we truly benefit from that because the fee is almost as much as what they charge if I want to get something fixed. Nonetheless, I'd tell my friends that it's a good service if you had a major problem done to your house. But for any appliance repair or such as this garage door opener problem, I don't see the big savings in it.

My air conditioner quit working. When I submitted the claim, everything had been fine. However, I didn't like the wait time. I had to sit on hold. The lady was very friendly, very nice and very attentive though. She got me a deal. When the technicians came out and checked it they were determined it needed Freon and then they saw where it had a leak and something that blew the hole in one of the lines. So they shut it down and didn't put any Freon in it because they had to see what they wanted to do because there was some quite of a bit of damage. The unit is 10 years old. The outside coil had a lot of corrosion on it and the fan bolt into the upper shield is severely cracked. It could fall in at any minute. They fixed the leak and started putting Freon in it. It took a whole lot of 10 pounds. It only takes seven so they determined that the compressor itself was bad.
The next day, American Home Shield called me and said that they were going to replace the compressor and I just made a statement to recommend that why would we replace the compressor itself and not the whole unit. It has lots of damage and it's not a wear. It's going to go out again and next year, another $450 on Freon. They came out twice this past year and they're already out this year. I need a new air conditioner. I had to mention the pictures of the unit that were taken and the rep said that she would reach out and get them. This was two days ago and she still hadn't gotten back to me. This is Texas. It was 88 degrees. All of our kids are coming here this weekend and we're sitting here with no air conditioner in half the house. It's ridiculous.
I'm not very satisfied at all. My wife is a Realtor and she recommends American Home Shield all the time. Now she's having second thoughts. It blows my mind this has happened. We have used American Home Shield for the last 10 years. Every house that we buy and sell have had an American Home Shield policy with it. I just renewed mine again just because we've had excellent service from them. Previously, we only had minor claims. This is the first major claim and if it's handled like this, it is making me question why would I want to stay with them.

I called in a claim for my range in my kitchen, and the company that American Home Shield called was on time each time he came out. Only the top part of the oven that would heat up, so it was pretty difficult when we wanted to bake something. We had to continuously watch it so we wouldn't burn it. I had it all of the time on broil because it wouldn't work otherwise. The technician repaired what needed to be repaired and even some stuff that I hadn’t even brought to his attention, he noticed that it needed repairing and he repaired it. I had a pleasant experience. My nurse uses the range quite often every day and it’s still working. And now we could bake, which we couldn’t before. Everything is working very well and I'm very happy. I have suggested American Home Shield to quite a few of my friends and relatives. When you are older and you’re retired and you need things like that, but you’re on a limited budget, they work out very well.

They were very nice and professional. The tech came out and he was able to change the thermostat. I would recommend them to a friend, though it'd be nice if the price went down a little bit. You pay the $100 service fee and then you're paying monthly too, but it is what it is.

He taught me what was going on and he kept me informed. And my dishwasher has been working like new since the repair. I'm all down with American Home Shield. If I'm not satisfied with the contractor they send out, they can put me on the list and get me a different contractor. It's very seldom we have an issue with American Home Shield. When we bought our new appliances a year and a half ago, we didn't take the extended warranty on them because American Home Shield has a better warranty than what Samsung does. We had two people come out that we've put two claims in and they were a month apart. The first time, our furnace went out when it was literally 20 below 0. The contractor found out we have teenagers, so he was over here within a matter of hours. He came over in the middle of a snowstorm and fixed my furnace. And then because my husband is disabled, they refunded us our deductible. He said that's the least he could do. And recently, a piece broke in my hot water heater and my basement flooded. My husband went online, he pointed and clicked, then the guy came over and he fixed it. I would tell my friends to go with AHS without hesitation as it pays for itself. Everybody should have them and we refer it to everyone.

American Home Shield has been pretty good. But it takes so long to get through to them. When I call in, the hold time would be one hour on the automated thing. There has also been a couple of problems. When I called for a technician to come out and look at a plug in the garage door opener, the young girl that was on the phone told me that there was going to be $100 co-pay. When I asked who should I pay, she told me that I should pay them then they'd pay the contractor. So, I paid her.
Then, when they sent electrician and garage door people, they wanted $100 each. I had to argue with them that I've already paid them through AHS. So, I finally called back AHS and they found out that the girl didn’t apply my payment to anyone of the contractors. So, the lady I talked to applied it to them. But it still showed that I had an outstanding balance. So I called them again to straighten things out. Then, in the middle of the summer, the air conditioner ran out and it was over 100 degrees. My sister was here and I told her to call the home warranty since I was 40 miles away at work. And their guy wouldn’t send anybody out because they said I had a $100 outstanding balance. I was so mad but I told my sister to just pay them so that we could get somebody out there. I called them a couple of days later and the rep I got said that I shouldn’t have to pay that $100 because it was their fault.
A couple of months ago, I had to call and get an electrician out here again. When the electrician came and changed the ceiling fan, she told me that American Home Shield would be collecting the money from me and that they changed the policy. But when I looked in my bank account, AHS auto drafted $100. That almost made me overdrawn and I didn't know how they knew I was going to pay out of that account. They should have called me that they would do that since I didn’t give them permission to auto draft the co-pay, even though I needed to pay it. So AHS have sent people when I needed them and one of them, Remedy Electric, has been so gracious. But all of that happened and when they auto drafted without sending me a letter or notice, that was the last straw. I would be changing my home warranty company soon.

I typically file claims to American Home Shield over the phone and all of their representatives have been professional and pleasant as well. But I heard offhand that a lot of contractors don't like American Home Shield because there is a pressure to fix something even when it needs to be replaced. And I feel that that was the case. It would have been great if I could have went online and see some notes because it was in progress. But with any other claim I’ve had with them somebody would come right on out and fix it so it wasn’t a big deal.
The contractor was great and professional. They got the job done. They kept me informed as they were doing work. They made sure they cleaned up after themselves. They kind of showed me what repair was done and made sure that the leak was fixed. Also they tried to make sure not to be disruptive to things I had going on and they were just very respectful and polite people.
I've been very satisfied with the request I have submitted and I have been recommending their services to others based upon the experiences I’ve had thus far. I’ve had heating issue a few times and AHS technicians have come out and worked on it but nobody could seem to fix it. I’d have it set at a certain temperature to go off and go on in a cycle and sometimes it would just go out. I like to set things at a certain temperature, at 74, and I’d wake up in the morning and it’d be 68 degrees in the house. I know it missed to cycle because it’s supposed to come on at 74. So, I’d have to go out to my unit and turn it off. I'd let it sit for a while and then turn it back on to see if it’d reset. It worked for a while but the last time it just did not come back on. So, the guy that AHS sent out came and he changed a couple of things. He worked on it and he got it fixed. I hadn’t had that problem anymore.
So far, everything’s still working. If I have any problems, I’d ask for them again although it'd have been better if there's a call back to check on the status, like a call check. Because if they come out to fix the unit, that’s the last you hear. I know everybody’s booked up and AHS got a lot of different things but they should have a call person to call and check at least 30 days out, not a week, not two weeks. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was fine. You call, you go online and make the claim. Within the next day, they call us and they would process right on through. Overall, they have been great to have. I tell everybody what I can about them especially homeowners. If you got a home, you definitely need AHS. It’s one of the best plans you can have that’s actually out there. I was very pleased with it and I highly recommend it.

It was a wire that broke and they fixed it, and it didn’t take them a long time. So I was pleased. I have dealt with Buffington Brothers before. So the experience was all good. I like it better that AHS use local vendors rather than bringing someone out of town or out of state. When I first started, they were sending people from out of state. I have talked with a couple of American Home Shield's reps on the phone whenever we were doing appointments when we had a claim regarding our water heater. They were perfectly fine, nice and helpful. They had their sub-contractor come out, look at the unit and tell us what was going on. However, we were a little iffy with the plumbing contractor only because I didn’t know much about the two line adjustments that they said were needed to be done.
When they told us that the water heater needed to be replaced, they submitted it to AHS and AHS approved it. The warranty covered the labor and everything for the replacement. However, the sub-contractor came back and said that they were going to cover this mess but they won't cover everything that needed to be done. They gave us three items that needed to be done and that would cost me another $679. They wanted to charge me $179 for a drain pan. I went and looked up how much you would buy a drain pan for at any local home improvement store and they were about 35 to 60 bucks, depending on how fancy or big you want to get.
When my A/C stopped working before, I filed a claim online. The contractors who came were really good at explaining things and about giving us a big picture of what was going on. We decided to do the whole replacement with them because they were very good at what they were doing and they seem to have a lot of knowledge. On the original visit, there was the $75 trip fee but everything else was with AHS. They replaced the motor in the old unit and it seemed to be fine. They did a good job. AHS is not going to be as handy for the big stuff but it's going to be really handy for the smaller appliances like the stove, the dishwasher, and the refrigerator.

The houses are duplexes and one portion of our plumbing line is connected. It was the main intake pipe and it seemed to be more coming from the other person’s side and she had things covered by different companies. Then, I called my handyman and he cut one part and did one little end. It was mostly from her. It ended up getting the leak repaired. AHS has not compensated me and I paid the $75 service thing. The toilet was leaking so they fixed the leak from the lead line but they did not fix the leak from the inside. When the guy came back, he said that we needed a new toilet. I finally called and they said that it looked like they were gonna have to replace it. Then they sent me over to their replacement service. This was on a Saturday and I was on the phone for an hour waiting on hold. The rep was great. She said that she was going to send me an email and that was the only follow through I received. After that, I emailed them twice and heard nothing. Finally, I called back. If I didn't chase them down, it wouldn't have gotten it done. They told me I would get it on the 28th which is today. A friend of mine bought a house about a year ago. Back then, I'd never even heard of AHS and he was telling me that he bought this insurance to pick up the cost of things that he did not notice in the house. I started looking into it and I told my wife, “We remodeled this house 20 years ago. It's going to be our luck that we're going to start getting hit with some bills on the air conditioner.” She was dead set against it but I convinced her. I said, “We're getting older. I've got all my funds for retirement. I'd hate to spend $8,000 on a new air conditioner rather than spend $60 a month that would have paid for it.”
I finally convinced her to do it and we set it up. We were approved in October and in November the icemaker on our refrigerator went out. I called AHS and they sent a guy out. I made sure I was scheduled to be home when he came. He was very clean. He repaired the icemaker and it was perfect. I asked if I owed anything and he said that they'd handle it all directly through American Home Shield. I was like, “This is impressive.” About 30 days later, I received a notice saying that I was past due on my bill. I called AHS and said that I never received anything. They were very good and said, “Not a problem. Do you want to pay us that $75 now?” And I said yes.
One morning my wife came to me and she said that there was no hot water. We live in Florida, so we use the solar system to heat water. I called American Home Shield and the rep didn't know if solar power was covered. Then she called me back and told me that it was. However, they didn't have anybody in their reference sheets that would repair a solar. She asked me to call someone, have them come and give an estimate, send AHS the estimate and then they'd approve it for a repair. The tech came and we submitted the estimate to American Home Shield. AHS called and said, “Have him fix the system but you pay him the 100% and then bill us.” That’s exactly what happened. The guy fixed the system, I paid him then I submitted the bill to American Home Shield. Last night, my wife said that we received the reimbursement for that. Everything has been very smooth.
At first, I was very skeptical when my friend started telling me about AHS, but then he told me some of the things he had done around his house. He said that his pool pump went out. He called AHS, they came and fixed it. My friend is an engineer, and he is very detailed so I trust him a lot. So far, I haven't been disappointed. AHS is a great company and I'd tell friends to get them if they think they're going to have expenses that may hurt their budget. But if they are buying it just in case anything goes wrong, then it's not worth it. My son just bought a brand new home, so I wouldn’t recommend him getting AHS because everything is under warranty there. Moreover, the appliances are all brand new and the odds of something going wrong are lower.

Their reps have been very courteous, knowledgeable about my account and what I am covered. When I first got the warranty about 16 years ago, a lot of the technicians that came were under par. But recently, they’ve been much more professional. In fact, the last couple of contractors have been good enough.
Recently, I called them about my garbage disposal. It was broken a month ago and AHS sent out a tech to repair it. But it's broken again and this time, I wanted to request for a different company to come out and fix it. I called them for that and so far, I'm still waiting to hear back from them. That option is not available online. When I place a request on their website, they'd automatically assign it to the last company that came out. It’s great to be able to use technology, but in these cases, I really would like to speak to a person in order to place a request. Also, I don't like waiting an hour on hold listening to awful music just to speak to a person.

The first time I ever a put a claim in with American Home Shield was when the dishwasher was broken. The claims rep over the phone was very, very nice, and I was very happy with the contractor. He was a gentleman and he was very honest. American Home Shield is legit and I'm happy with them. It was good that they definitely helped. And I've put this warranty on another house that I owned as well.

My furnace was frozen somehow, so I didn’t know what to do. I tried to ignite the flame but I couldn’t do it myself. I didn’t have any experience. I just put the claim on the internet at 2:30 am and the next day I got the service around two o’clock. It was very nice. I always book the AHS service on the internet and I’m very happy that it works. The technician came here and he was a very polite, competent and nice gentleman. He did the job and we were back with the heating. Otherwise the whole night, we were shivering. I’m quite happy with the service.
