We just purchased a new home in Arizona and we needed to have the locks rekeyed. My real estate agent sent me an email saying it was an option and to use it so we did it with AHS. We were on the road and driving the U-Haul truck there. We were called and told, “We’ll be there whenever you’re there.” It worked out perfectly. The guy from Realty Rekey was great. He came out to the house, had everything with him, went around, and rekeyed all the locks. He got it done really fast and showed us how to do all of them, made sure they all worked before he left. He was very pleasant.

I always call American Home Shield to submit my claims. And it has always been easy for me and the reps that I talked to have been very good. My most recent claim was for a big wet spot in the middle of my hallway. I cut the stinky carpet down and it hasn't leaked again, but I still don't know how it got there. I was not really happy with the contractor that came. I even tried to get another company to come out and apparently, they were the only company that does plumbing. In addition, my air conditioner had been serviced before and it was always people from out of state so, it would take them a long time to get here. American Home Shield used to use local people and I don't know why they don't do that anymore. It would take at least a few days and then, depending on what the problem is, it could take weeks to get it fixed. Other than that, I still appreciate American Home Shield.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and I have two properties with the warranty. I recently had my AC repaired. The house was hot and it wouldn’t cool down. It was something with one of the little copper tin thing. It was on the outside unit and it had cracked due to the vibration. Submitting the claim online to AHS was easy and the contractor came out the next day. The tech called us that he was on his way, I met him, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He had to solder the crack back together. He was very professional. If I had any other AC issue, I would love to have him again. That contractor company was great. AHS is great as well and I would highly recommend anybody to them.

My AC went out and stopped working, and it was very easy to submit the claim with American Home Shield online. They called out a company to come out and take a look at it. The contractor was good, but they lied to me about a few things. They were telling me they couldn't do the repair because of a certain reason. However, that reason didn't exist in the unit that I had. They were also trying to tell me they needed an extra $360 out of my pocket because they had to run new wiring and copper, but I knew the wiring and copper were sufficient. So, it was just a way for them to make a little money. Other than that, the communication has been really good, the emails have been informative enough and AHS has been great. I'll probably do another year.

The heater went out in the house. I submitted the claim with AHS and they contacted me. It just took a couple of days. The contractor was very amicable and easy to work with. AHS ended up replacing the heater. I just started the system and AHS started out well for me. The home warranty is worth it so far. I look at it like they want $200 for two or three years to do the refrigerator. If anything goes bad, it covers everything in the house for $200 a year which is a fairly decent deal. I have a washer, a dryer and they had separate warranties that cost $150 a year for a couple of years. It seems quite a savings in that way so, I simply dropped those and started using AHS. The only issue I have is that the expense of having to replace a large ticket item was kind of hard because they paid for the item. But then, I didn’t really realize that it cost $3,000 to put it up there which is big savings, so I was happy with that. I recommended AHS to a couple of people.

I've had three claims with American Home Shield so far and I typically go to their website to submit my claim as it is easier that way. The most recent one we submitted was for our air conditioning that was running but wasn’t blowing cold. I've had two contractors and claims on that issue. The first guy who was out here has obviously been doing his trade for a while but his presentation wasn’t professional. His demeanor left something to be desired but he got the job done. Then it was thought that the problem was electrical so an electrical contractor from Turner Electrical and Lighting was sent. They were great and very friendly. They were here for about an hour and presented themselves exceptionally well. They told us what they were doing and the issue was taken care of. Everything is fine now.

I had American Home Shield on two houses and I had them for about 15 years. When the spring on the garage door broke, the guy told me that the warranty didn’t cover the spring. Then I told them it had to be fixed. Then I still had to pay the $75 charge just to have the guy come out. It would’ve cost the same thing if I just called that guy and have him come out and fix it. But he did an excellent job and everything is fine since the repair.

The freezer would make a train sound so I went online, put the order with American Home Shield to have someone come out and look at it. I paid online, and they gave me the company’s number. They said they would probably get in touch with me within 24 to 48 hours. I submitted the claim late in the evening, almost 5:00. They didn’t get the request until the next day, so it was fine.

I had a class, so I asked maybe the owner of the company if the contractor could call me on his way and so I wouldn't be late for school. He called me about 30 minutes before he was coming and he got here and introduced himself. Before the contractor came, he asked me if I would take care of the freezer, and I had that ready for him. I showed him where the kitchen was and where the thing was. He had all his equipment, got in and stayed there. Then on his way out, I signed some paperwork. He helped me pull the refrigerator back, so I could sweep behind it. He was very helpful and did great.

I put everything back in the freezer, and it has been fine. He showed to me the whole thing was cracked and so I have a new motor and fan. I haven't had any trouble since he left and it hasn’t made a noise since he replaced the old one. Then I called the contractor 'cause I didn’t receive a receipt, but he said that they would mail it. Yet I still haven't received anything from them. I have school and the kids are in school too, so I just let all things fly. I have the invoice from my bank and stuff, but they didn’t have a copy. I thought that was a little odd.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. We had them in Kentucky since the seller of the first home we bought gave us a year of warranty. So when we sold our home, we also gave a year of warranty. And we wanted to go with American Home Shield, but they went through another one because they were a little cheaper. When we got here in St. Louis, we called American Home Shield and got everything back because we enjoy having their coverage.

When we were visiting St. Louis again and had just gotten home by 2:00 in the morning, I walked downstairs and there was a ton of water at the bottom step. The hot water heater had just burst so I came out and American Home Shield sent someone out who got there as soon as day broke and got everything replaced and had it vacuumed. So as long as they would cover it, that’s fine. And I told all my friends about them. Three days ago, I told my girlfriend a lot about the refrigerator and she may even look into it. Overall, I enjoy the service and I never had any trouble. I also never waited over two days, so I'm happy about that.

But, I like that it could be turned on now because before, it would take a long time to light up and after that, there would be exploding sounds and the tech fixed that. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield about my garbage disposal, the plumber did not get it right and it was leaking the first go-round. But then, he came the second time and that got it squared away. Everything has been good since. On the other hand, I had a claim where rainwater was dripping off in a certain way to where it's causing water damage to the plywood outside my house and underneath the vinyl siding. It was an old damage from the previous owner, and while they got it fixed, they did not correct the damage to the wood.

And because it is connected to the flue, which is connected to a gas fireplace, I can't file a claim for that. Basically, once you get into the fine writing and you start looking through it, you realize they have this facade where the whole house is covered but then, the only things that are covered are the washer and dryer and the basic appliances and nothing else. And it is not worth the money paid and I wouldn’t have gotten it had I known because I work for a company where I can get garbage disposals and appliances at a fraction of the cost. I should have read all the fine prints. Other than that, they have a straightforward, user-friendly website.

My stove died and the guy fixed it supposedly but then I had to call him back because it was still doing the same thing. American Home Shield was wonderful there. They immediately gave me a stove that was comparable with the one I had. I was happy with what they chose and they delivered it. Everything was wonderful. In five years I had not had to put in a claim and I kept thinking every month that I was going to stop sending the money for nothing. But with that stove experience, I was completely thrilled. I thought they've changed.

But two months later, my washing machine died. I had somebody come look at it first but I asked the local appliance service company, Big Kountry, to give me the first appointment in the morning. I am going through radiation for cancer and I have to go everyday at 11:00 then from radiation, I go to work. I was not asking much. They could give me whatever day they wanted. I just wanted them to give me the first appointment in the morning and they never would. They were being absolutely horrible and insensitive, and they won't work with me. I had begged them, sent them emails and talked to them on phone. But the guy showed up at 10:30 and I told him I had been waiting all morning and that I had to leave.

He asked me how long I had and I said 10 minutes. He said he would check it for me in 10 minutes and that nobody had told him that he needed to come earlier. He told me my washer is a real good washer and that it's better than the one you buy nowadays. He said all I needed to do was change the transmission if I was gonna find it. So I was perfectly content with that. He was so helpful and he tried to get the parts for the transmission. He was very nice. But the place was not.

I was sent an email saying that the part was going to get in on Saturday and that was wonderful. But the next thing I know is I can't get through to American Home Shield. Two times I was on the phone for two hours waiting for a customer representative to come to the phone and pick it up. That is not acceptable. Plus the phone died both times. I guess the limit of the battery on my cordless is two hours and I never got anybody to answer the phone. Another time, I called for an hour and a half at night, thinking it may be better. I called at 9:00 at night and at 10:30 I hung up my cell because I wanted to go to sleep. I had not been able to talk to anybody so I wrote a letter to the customer service manager in the headquarters. They should have gotten it already but I have not heard from them.

Sometimes I feel like I was calling the wrong number and they have more than one number. The guy who called me about the stove stayed on the phone with me for an hour. He would show me pictures then I would go to the computer and see the pictures then we talked and decided. He was absolutely wonderful. In fact in the letter I wrote, I said, "Please find out his name and get him for me. I need him."

Apparently they couldn't find the part and American Home Shield decided they have to replace the washer. I understand that the problem is that because it's an old washer. But Big Kountry could come and take out the transmission and with that model number, they would probably be able to get it. American Home Shield sent me an email about two weeks ago and they were offering me these rinky-dinky little washers. But I have said that I would take mine and if they just put the transmission, it would be cheaper. When they showed me the stove, I was thrilled. They were really doing a comparison and they gave me each and every one of the points that my stove had. But this time there was a picture there and if I don't like that one, which was smaller, rinkier, dinkier and junkier, then I have to pay $400 and they were still not even comparable. But that's not what I'm paying that insurance for. In the stove, I didn't have to pay one penny.

I've been without a washer for six weeks now and I am just furious. I have had the worst month between the radiation and the weather. Plus I have to go to the laundromat to wash clothes and I'm 72 years old. I am not happy with American Home Shield. Sometimes I think they're Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and I have been trying to deal with the bad one the last couple of times.

We were without heat in the middle of winter, and we filed a claim to American Home Shield. The technician who was an hour away from our area came to our home, went up in the attic, and said he couldn't get up there because there wasn't a walkway around it. And so, he climbed back down and left. We called again to try to find out what kind of walkway he wanted around our heat system and they told us. Then, my husband did that. The technician came back out a couple of weeks later. And we were without heat the whole time. He went up the attic and then said he fixed it. But, it didn't work the next day. We called somebody else on our own and the technician told us that there was no problem getting to it. He didn't even have to get up the stairs, much less put a walkway around it. He said that it needed this and that.

We called AHS and we told them what it needed. They said that they weren't gonna do that. All they were gonna do is the one little thing which cost under $100 and it ended up costing us $600 because they had to replace something else. And that was probably the main thing why the heater wasn't working because it didn't work the first time after AHS did it. We asked AHS to reimburse us but they said they won't and they had to do their own steps first. We dropped them.

We told them we have a local guy who could do it the next day and that we didn't have to wait for two weeks. They told us that they were going with the technician they have and he is out for two weeks. It was ridiculous. The guys came out here two days later, had the heating done and we haven't had any problems since. I was really happy with the guys who came out, and they fixed the issue for $600. We didn't get reimbursed by AHS but they paid $100 towards the $600.

Another thing was when I spoke to the AHS reps over the phone, I was on hold with them for two hours, about five times trying to deal with them. I was soaking in the tub, doing my other stuff and talking to my husband. Then, one time after two hours, AHS said that they couldn’t get to my call and to call back later then they hung up. It was very bad. I would not recommend and I would discourage anyone thinking about American Home Shield. They were fine as long as nothing went wrong with our house. We pay them $46 a month right out of our checks every month. And as soon as we needed them, it was bad. We could have pocketed that $46 a month for four years and we could have paid for that easily. I’m dissatisfied with AHS all the way around.

I recently moved to the house late last year. In the hustle and bustle of everything, I failed to attempt to use the dishwasher beforehand. About a month before I filed the claim, I noticed it wasn’t working at all. I did what I could to look it and that's when I decided to file a claim. I had the American Home Shield warranty for a year with the house I purchased so that’s when it was filed. I made an online profile on the website and did it that way. It seemed to be the easiest. The website was straightforward. It sent me confirmation emails, and the only time I spoke with someone on the phone was from the appliance repair that American Home Shield outsourced to come to my house.

The account for service rep who called and set the appointment was courteous. And then the technician was also courteous, on time and did a good job in explaining what was going to happen, the process to it, how it works and what it would take to fix it. He gave me a timeline because a part had to be ordered. It was all laid out very well. I have no complaints and everything has been going well since the repair.

The seller of the house paid for the home warranty. For the price, it cut me right down. I’m planning on reopening my home warranty when it expires in January or February of next year. It takes a lot of worrying out of my head because being that I just bought the house, the last thing I want to do is spend a ton of money if something was to go wrong with it. I would tell my friends that American Home Shield is definitely worth the investment given the way expenses can pile up on a house if one thing did go wrong.

However, I had to put the call in twice for him to come out. The first time the contractor came, he looked at the dishwasher and tried to run it through a couple of cycles but couldn't get it to leak, so he tried to tell us that the type of soap we were using caused it to bubble up and it sounded like he was not talking factually. He left and we ran the dishwasher, thinking that everything was going to be fine but it leaked again. This time, it leaked through the ceiling down in one of the downstairs rooms. A place for a motherboard and something else had burned through and created a hole which was causing it to leak, not because of soap. Right now, we're waiting on a part.

AHS is awesome, they’re the best out there and they’re respectful. I appreciate them each and every day of my life. They have been a blessing to me. Their customer service is concerned, and I like the idea that they stopped having us pay the contractor, they pay them. I like the contractors that came out here and I like the fact AHS does a background check. They make sure that these contractors are respectful to us and if we don’t have priority when we call them, AHS will change the company out. They support their people, they support us and they’re appreciative of their clients.

The plumber that American Home Shield sent here was awesome, on time and professional. He cleaned up and checked everything out. He went above and beyond, let the waters run and make sure the drains were clear. He checked his work and asked me if I wanted to come up under the house and take a look. Anybody that has a child that has asthma or any kind of medical need has to have AHS if they’re a homeowner because they support that. There was a time when my air-conditioner went out in my other house and AHS offered me to go to the hotel after a 72 hour period. That was awesome and I didn’t go but they also told me that if I wanted to buy fans, to just keep the receipts and they’d reimburse it. Anybody that has a home today, needs to have American Home Shield.

I just sold my house and I paid for an AHS plan for the new people that would be coming in my house. That was how pleased I was with AHS and I wanted buyers to become comfortable when they come here. If I was going to buy another house, I would not do without American Home Shield. What I pay American Home Shield is nothing compared to what I would have to pay one contractor on their one visit. I've usually filed my claims by phone and it could be any hour of the night that I’ve called them and they’ve responded to me.

I had one problem with the contractor but I've already called a dispute for that, so that's fine. They took care of it. They sent me letters, answered my phone calls, called me and followed up.

Everything’s working perfectly now. I’m very happy with the service that I’m getting from AHS. I tell people the experience that I had with AHS so far. Speaking with them is easy. Our water heater was leaking so we called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I kept trying to do it automatically on the phone but I didn’t have my account set up, so it wouldn’t let me. And then, I had to go on chat and they told me what I needed to do. The rep knew exactly what needed to happen and once I did that, I went online and took care of it all. Once I was able to get my password for my account, I went on and did my request for a service order. And then, we had somebody come out.

Massena Plumbing and Mechanical was our contractor and Mister Massena was the best person we’ve ever had to take care of our stuff. He’d been out more than once and it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, he comes out and he ensured everything was good to go. They had been out before and this time he could actually see it leaking. Since the repair, the performance of the heater has been great. Now, we have hot water on a regular basis and no leaks, so we’re good. Massena Plumbing and Mechanical is really good. In fact, if I could always have them come out to my house, I would. This is the second home that we’ve had with AHS. We had another house, we sold it and bought this one, so it’s probably been at least three years that we've had AHS. AHS is great and you don't have to worry about a large sum of money coming out of your pockets. You already know what it would cost you.

They sent a technician out and it ended up costing us another 450 bucks for the freon and they fixed it. The airconditioner has been working great. My wife told me that everybody was professional and helpful. Before this, we had a kid come out and look at it and said it was one thing, but I had another company take a look and they tried to sell us for a whole unit. But the American Home Shield folks said that it was not the whole unit and it was just a little part that was not working. And they were right. We didn't have to change out the whole unit, so it was good to know they had a better technician. I'd recommend American Home Shield. They stand behind their commitment to cover the items in our house.

Honestly, I don’t know where to start. When I called Drain Doctors for the first time, the person who answered the phone “YO!” It was very unprofessional and I had no clue who I was calling, so I had to ask, “Did I call Drain Doctors?” And then he said "yes" and continued to talk to another person in the background before he came back to the phone and attempted to resolve my issue. That was only day one.

Day two, Dwayne from Drain Doctors told me that someone would be coming the following day between 8:00 a.m-noon, then a couple hrs later after I had planned with my family and work to be there, another Drain Doctors representative called me and said that time won’t work because the vendor most likely won’t have the part ready for pickup. So I had to call American Home Shield in order for them to could contact the vendor. Then I had to contact Drain Doctors again and relay the information that I received from AHS regarding the vendor and again, and another unprofessional conversation with Drain Doctors.

Long story somewhat short, the next day Drain Doctors comes out, the technician installed the unit and left. I tried the hot water and it never provided hot water. We let it run for 30 mins and it was still ice cold. I called the technician and explained that I have my sister, brother-in-law, and sister visiting from out of town and we have already been without hot water for three days and now we just spend over $1,000 on a new unit and it doesn’t work. He said that he was on his way and will check it out. Once again, not apologetic, not caring, and unprofessional. An hour later and he still didn’t show up. I called him again and same thing, he said he was on his way. This is the worst experience ever! American Home Shield appears to be a good company but they hire the lowest bidder for the job and they ARE BAD!

American Home Shield sent out a technician from Accurate Appliance Repair Las Vegas, he removed the cabinet and had look inside then turned on the spin cycle and listened to the loud bumping noise and vibrating, of course the machine was empty at this time. He concluded that there was a problem with the transmission and didn't investigate any further. The tech replaced the cabinet and informed me that American Home Shield would not repair the problem as no fault was found. I phoned Home Shield and was informed the machine was still in working condition. No fault was found. In conclusion I think I would have been better off without the "Real estate home protection plan" and used the $500.00 cost of the policy and the $75.00 call out charge towards repairing the Whirlpool washer or buying a new model.

They will take your request by phone or online but will refer you to a cancellation department that is never available to receive your calls and will never return calls. In the meantime they'll keep charging your credit card month after month. It does not matter how many times you call them to cancel the account or how many times you change your credit card number. They will keep your plan "active" charging you ad-infinitum. Once the new card is activated they will get the info from the financial institution issuing your card somehow and will charge you for all the months they did not receive payment. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is super easy. They have a really quick thing that I fill out online, and it is very simple to pay online too. Then they'll send me an email right away that says who they contract with that would do the work. And then American Home Shield will say that that contracting company will contact me within 24 or 48 hrs. And if the contractor doesn't contact me, there's a number that American Home Shield gives just in case. My refrigerator broke and the company that I had was the same company that serviced my washer and dryer a couple of months ago. And they did an amazing job. It took a little longer for them to come out for the refrigerator but that was more of my fault than theirs.

I had them come out twice for the refrigerator. They thought they had the problem fixed, but then it was doing the same thing, so I called American Home Shield back and they put in a new claim. I didn't have to pay anything that second time. It was still covered because it was within the 60 days as stated in my contract. The same guy from the same company came out, looked at the problem and said that the refrigerator needed to be replaced. He said that American Home Shield would contact me but I hadn't heard anything in a couple of days, so I called American Home Shield. It was a super quick and easy phone call, and all I had to do was give them my claim number. They gave me a different phone number to call, and I called and gave the rep the model and the serial number of my current fridge. They pulled up an equivalent model and they sent the information to me in an email. I ordered my fridge online and I had the unit within a week.

Also, I have an air conditioner on the roof of my two-story condo complex and I had to have it repaired last summer. The contractor said the unit needed to be replaced as there was a ton of hail damage. American Home Shield called me almost immediately and said they were not going to replace that and were also never going to pay for any repair unless I have it replaced. That is my only problem with American Home Shield. I understood why they wouldn't cover it because the damage was caused more by a storm than from a supposed maintenance issue. Now, I have to replace that AC on my own if I want to.

My doorbell went bad and I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. The company that they sent, Ryan Electric, checked everything out. I had their tech install the ring doorbell and that went smooth but he had to come back because one screw was loose. He came back right away and fixed it. The whole thing was fairly seamless, timely and trouble-free, which is what I like.

I had one issue with a vendor that AHS used though. I got an e-mail saying that he’ll be handling it, so I called him and he told me that AHS didn’t pay their bills with him, so he’s not dealing with them that time. I called in and explained it to AHS and that’s when they connected me to Ryan Electric. Then a week later, that contractor who said that AHS didn’t pay him told me that everything has been corrected and that he can come out to look at my issue and fix it. But I told him not to because I wasn’t given authorization by AHS to deal with him. So, that caught me off guard. Ryan Electric said they've had a long-term relationship with AHS and there have been no issues so I did not know what the deal was with that guy.

I had a water heater replacement and then a recirculation pump that was repaired. The whole process as well as submitting both those claims with American Home Shield was a hassle. First of all, there was an hour and a half wait time at minimum when I called them to discuss any problem that I had. And then they sent out companies who did substandard work and provided inadequate information. They tried to replace my 50 gallon water heater with a 30 gallon water heater. I called AHS again and that was another hour and a half to wait on hold. And then the company who came back out left the water heater and it took them a month to pick up the heater when they were supposed to pick it up in the beginning. The old water heater sat outside my house for a month.

The next claim was a recirculation pump which sits next to my other water heater. And when they came out, they caused the problem with the shutoff valve. So now, I have very little hot water flow to half of my house, and I have no instant hot water to the other half of the house. That was a poor experience as well. They still have yet to fix that.

I also had a refrigerator broken since September and it's now January. AHS kept contacting the contractor relations and then they were going to replace it. However, they don’t have a replacement and so, they’re going to do cash in lieu of that. But then, they can’t come up with the figure. The will go back to customer relations and then call me back. We’re talking about at least 20 different occasions of phone calls and 20 hours of waiting on hold. AHS doesn't want to step up and get things done. I've been with them since July and if I had known that the service is going to be like this, I would have stayed with Old Republic. The only thing that was smooth sailing was that one claim that we had with our dryer.

I've been living in this home for about 10 months and I've used AHS services at least five times. Most recently, I made a claim with AHS for an electrician to go and take a look at some of our electrical outlets at my home. I submitted that claim online and afterward, I received a phone call from AHS that I would be contacted by the provider, who contacted me within 48 hours, set up the appointment, came and completed the work. It was seamless. The contractor was pleasant, punctual and knowledgeable. It was a simple task for him which was replacing an exterior outlet I have in the home. That was only one job for him. He checked multiple outlets which, I believed, were inoperable but they were fine. When he was done, I received a receipt and was billed subsequently afterward per the guidelines for AHS. They gave me the option online whether I wanted to pay immediately or within two days afterward.

On the five instances in which I have used AHS, I had one perplexing case here at my home where I received a huge water bill. This was back in about January timeframe. And we had AHS sent out a service technician to go and try to troubleshoot and detect where the leak was coming from our home, but they never were able to go and determine it. But from that month, I had never received a high bill afterward. So, in my estimation, there was some other cause for that huge bill. I stayed in contact with AHS on the matter. We also had the local water authority representatives come out and do their due diligence as well.

I also have had a number of faucets replaced here and they did that on two occasions. I had one kitchen faucet replaced and another time where they actually swapped out three faucets. One thing that occurred about five months ago was when they initially came to look at the faucets. They, for whatever reason, determined that they were not going to cover the replacement of the faucets themselves and I have to go and purchase my own faucets. They were claiming that the faucets were not working due to wear and tear. I do not know what it could have been but I just moved into the home months prior.

As time passed and I was working with other matters in the house, we ended up purchasing three faucets to get swapped out and then we made the call back to AHS and told them that we've got these faucets. But we're in the new year and they weren’t able to reach back on the system. The tech came out and said that these faucets need to be swapped out, and they honored the warranty then. I was stuck with three faucets but that was fine. They did a good job swapping them out, but I had hoped that they should have been able to go and cover those faucets initially and not having me have to go through them. That was the only thing that could have been improved.

But other than that, they usually were very professional, they didn’t leave a mess, they didn’t cause any more damage, and we haven't had any complaints with all the services that they provided. We had another technician come out and swapped out the keys because it was a rekeying that we requested since we were in a new home and we wanted to think on the security side. So, we've been taking advantage of everything that we could on the AHS and thus far, we're very satisfied. I'd tell others that if they were a homeowner, I'd highly recommend AHS. As a matter of fact, when I purchased the home, we paid a year upfront for the service.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator and I had to do that twice. The first time, they chose a contractor and the contractor called and made an appointment. But then the contractor called back and said that they don't service our area, and I figured that was something that American Home Shield should have known. Then I thought that American Home Shield would call me and reschedule the service, but I ended up having to call them again to file another claim for my refrigerator.

The second time, the contractor that American Home Shield chose to do the repair came out, but the contractor told me that there was nothing they could do because the part that was broken was under warranty with the manufacturer. But American Home Shield never called me and said anything, and they left me hanging there, so I was a little disappointed. The warranty pays for itself, but it's a bit annoying when the contractor comes out and tells me that there's nothing they can do and I still have to pay the service fee. So, American Home Shield has left me in the lurch twice. Another thing was, although I could make appointments online, I sat on the phone for over an hour trying to get in touch with American Home Shield and that was disappointing, so I just decided to give up.

I've had AHS for a couple of years and I'm pretty happy with it. We filed a claim for our dryer and the contractor AHS sent figured out the problem for me really quickly. The problem ended up being the plug that the dryer was going into. Since the contractor was an appliance guy, he couldn't fix it. I didn't think it was covered by AHS so I just called an electrician to fix it. Everything has been fine since the repair.

Navigating the site of American Home Shield to file the claim online was easy. The contractor that came out to fix the microwave door was great. They were courteous and seemed efficient. I told them that the microwave's functioning was spotty, so they tested it a few times. It seemed to be working after they repaired it, but then two days after they left the problem occurred again. Unfortunately, I've got to call them back out because the issue's popping up again.

A pharmacist in Mantua Station Drug advised me to get the American Home Shield warranty and I was happy that he did. I couldn't ask for a better service. Kyle was here and he did some plumbing for me. He fixed the shower. I was totally satisfied with him. He was polite, courteous and quick. We had his friend come with him too and both men were awesome. I had no fear of them. They put on their booties and they showed a lot of respect. Now, I can shower in the morning when I get up. I don't have to walk halfway across the house to go take a shower. It is very convenient, thanks to Kyle. I would advise friends to get the warranty, especially when a woman is alone and she doesn't have her husband. I also recommend this for senior citizens. Their income is very restricted. If anything happened to my refrigerator, I couldn't afford it. I would have to finance it, which would cost me more money.

I needed to have my doorbell replaced. I called American Home Shield and talked to a person and told him what the problem was. He gave me the contractor’s number, the work order number and told me who the person was that would be coming out. It was really easy for me to do. The tech told us what time he would be here and he was 10 minutes early. He was very professional and courteous. He was only here about 15 minutes as the only thing he had to do was replace the actual button that you push on the outside and he did something with the actual doorbell itself and it started working.

Before we got the doorbell fixed, my wife would have to sit here with the door open. Now, we don’t have to worry about sitting here with the door open, especially if we aren't expecting somebody to come. We can just close the door and they will just ring the bell and we’ll let them in. Every time I called AHS, they have taken care of stuff. I called a couple of weeks before because the heating element went out in the stove and a guy came out for that.

The technician that came out did a good job but he muttered and complained the whole time he was working so it was weird. But the repair has been fine and smooth, other than the few hours that had taken the tech to get the water heater in. But American Home Shield has been very good for us in terms of providing help when we needed it. I would certainly recommend them. We would like to take it apart and blow dry with a hairdryer and try to get all the ice melted. It was not a one-time fix and we did it twice already. So, we decided to use our insurance. I filed a claim using our account and we have been doing it online. It was easy and self-explanatory. The contractors that came out have all been great. But there was one where we submitted a trouble ticket for our disposal and nobody came out, which worked out great because no one ever confirmed and we were able to fix the disposal. I didn't get a chance to cancel the ticket and they still did not come out.

Working with American Home Shield is amazing because I know that every single time there is something wrong with the house. When we purchased the warranty, one of our concerns was the fact that our house is 30 years old and some of the appliances have been there for a little while. I had a plumbing issue with the washer and dryer. The shut-off valve was all rusted and leaking and the people that came to hook it up would not run the cycle through it because they didn’t want to turn that valve on. They said that if they turned it on, it could bust and rupture and they didn’t want to take the chance. So I called American Home Shield and it took almost an hour to get through.

The plumber was very good and he explained everything to me. He looked at the valve, turned it on and it started leaking really bad. I told him that it needs to be replaced, but he said that he didn’t have that type of a valve system that was on there so he had to cut my pipes off for him to put on a tub faucet. And then he said that since it had to be modified, they wouldn't cover the expense so I had to pay out of pocket on that besides the $75 service charge. It only took him 15 minutes to pull it off and put the valve on and he charged me $225, but he let it go for $190 so he helped me out that way a bit.

And then, on the electrical issue with the breaker, the contractor reset it and it was fine so they didn’t do anything. Of course, he had to come out for the service call. He said he couldn't do anything for the bedroom light, fan, and light that comes on at different hours. So, I wasn’t too happy with the service. I thought AHS should have covered the plumbing at least and they didn’t.

In the patio, I had installed this aluminum wood cabinet system in between the rafters. It was leaking bad and so I'm going there and put some kind of a shield in since they'll rot up the roof there. I figured AHS isn't going to cover that either so I'm going to take care of that myself because I hate to charge a call and come look at it and then they're going tell me that it had nothing to do with them. I'm very dissatisfied with AHS's service and I'm seriously thinking that if something happens, I'm going to just have someone else fix it for me and hopefully, it won't be as much. I wouldn't recommend AHS to my friends because I wouldn't want them to go through the same experience that I had.

But another company had to come out the next morning because the original company they sent out couldn't come out for four or five more days. And the guy fixed it and then he went and pulled the permit. He got the inspector out there the first thing in the morning. So, I had gas after going without gas for 48 hours and I was very happy.

And then they sent a drywaller out toward the end of the week. He came all the way down from Edmond and he didn't realize that the ceiling was high so he came out first thing Monday morning and got it all patched up and I painted it that night. I'm really happy with it as well. The whole procedure took a week, but the actual leak was fixed within 24 hours and that was all inspected and put back together within 48 hours. American Home Shield was on the ball and has always stayed on top of things.

There was a misunderstanding with me getting the warranty when I closed on the house I purchased. I also haven't received the paperwork for the policy so I called American Home Shield to find out where it was. At the same time, I had to call them about my dishwasher because it would not start. The lady I talked to told me that my policy had been sent out and that I should receive it in a couple of days. But she told me that they would take my claim because i was on file and I didn’t need to wait. That was amazing and I was pleasantly surprised. I expected to be told that since the paperwork would be arriving in a couple of days, I should just wait for it and call the right number. So submitting the claim was quick, smooth and easy.

When the contractor came out, he explained who he was and the reason he came. I showed him the dishwasher and he went to work on it. It turned out to be a problem with the motherboard and control board. He called me over and explained what happened. Then, as he was repairing it, he noticed that a couple of wires were broken off. He explained to me that the dishwasher was an older model and that it has been discontinued. And if it gets broken in the future, it’ll be continued to be repaired until the parts couldn't be repaired or becomes unavailable. He told me that I would have to expect that eventually, it could get to a point where the dishwasher could not be repaired anymore and would have to be replaced. He was very professional in warning me in advance about that.

He had the job done quickly within 30 minutes and he was in and out of the house in less than 45 minutes. I told him that I needed to sign something but he said that I didn't as he already notified the warranty company and bid me to have a nice day. Since the repair, I had no problems and the dishwasher has been doing great.

Compared to the warranty company I had in my previous home that flooded, American Home Shield spent very little time getting the work done. Also, the processing with the other company involved a lot of operators and my experience with AHS was much more pleasant. I would recommend them and continue to renew my contract each year while I have the home. I would tell my friends that American Home Shiled took care of my first claim and that they should try them out for themselves. They'd like AHS.

I don’t mind doing phone calls, but in some cases, the online system is more visual. There were some connection issues with the air conditioner recently and the electrician was able to get things aligned. He was very quick and professional. It worked out great and I was very satisfied.

I also like that I have two different options for payment and it's convenient. I had another claim that all of a sudden corrected itself. And then I had the option to either pay now or pay later. I paid the $100 anyway, but in that one claim that I had regarding the pool, all of a sudden, the technicians came back on their own. We called online and canceled that because they hadn't ordered the technician yet. That was cool and it saved everybody’s time and efforts.

Holy cow, what a scam. On Friday late afternoon, February 23, 2018, our furnace went out. It was a freezing night so we immediately contacted American Home Shield for help. The next day, they informed us that they were overbooked and so they authorized us to find our own vendor. The following Monday, we obtained a quote from the only vendor able to respond on short notice. The quote was submitted to AHS the following day.

Once the quote was submitted AHS waited another three days and then told us they wanted a second opinion from a firm that is miles and miles away. Or in plain English, an hour drive and then another hour ferry boat ride. That firm, after a two-day delay, came out and confirmed the first opinion as to the condition of the furnace. Then after another delay, AHS informed us that they would install a furnace (of their choice within the range of specifications of our existing furnace.) When we ask, as they anticipated, if they had a cash-in-lieu of installation provision, their response was lightning fast. "Sure" they told us and here is the amount, $1,484.79, which is a fraction of the cost quoted by every other servers we approached.

Every HVAC vendor in our county refused to deal with this company. Then, the vendor that rendered the second opinion told us that they deal with AHS as a means for obtaining additional business. In other words, we believe that they low-ball their labor quotes to AHS to obtain new customer's business. They then offered to send us a quote for a "much better" system that we would pay for out of our own pocket.

Guess what, the quote was ($13,581.03) much, much, higher than any of the five other firms we approached for the same model inverter heat pump system. And that was without 8.9% sales tax or the $1400 out of pocket expenses we were told to pay to deal with electrical issues. By coincidence, the five quotes were obtained before the furnace went out. We had explored the option of a heat pump system and obtained quotes before rejecting that approach as impractical for this specific location. Those quotes were all in the $7,000 to $9,000 range.

The lesson here is simple: AHS delays just enough (12 frigid days) to make an old couple desperate. They might have mentioned "their firm" right at the beginning, but did not even hint about that possibility. Their "second opinion" firm agrees to work at well below industry rates as a means to obtain much higher priced business at the back end. Then, AHS low-balls us with their designated firm and their furnace, setting the stage for us to accept a reduced cash out. Meanwhile, their designated firm offers to come in and install a system at a rate far higher than anyone else in the neighborhood.

This all makes bait and switch look like child's play. AHS has no business operating in this marketplace. For a $620 policy and a $75 service fee, no one should seek this insurance if their appliances are more costly then a dishwasher. Because AHS is not going to come through in a timely fashion, if our experience is any indication. These are the tactics that give insurance a terrible reputation and we are frankly both very cold and very offended by their treatment of us. I spent 7.5 hours on the telephone over ten days trying to get simple answers to our questions. Simply pathetic!

AHS already gave me the total part but no one seems to want to set it up, and I’m not getting much satisfaction with that issue. And every time I’ve had a guy out there, they said that they wouldn’t fix it and they wouldn’t do a replacement. My cooktop was damaged, so we’re cooking in this house with pins. I also had a Russian from Colorado Springs look at the cooktop and the downdraft, and he said he couldn't fix it as it was broken. And he didn’t want to come back and fix it because he took it apart.

This cooktop is what affected us the most as it needs a bit of work, too. I was trying to get somebody I could count on and AHS gave me a name. I’m waiting for them to give me a callback and set it up. The stuff now in Chicago has been good but Vegas has been a little irritating. Generally my experience with American Home Shield is that the staff doesn't know the policies. The Vegas property is a rental and they told my realtor that the faucet was not covered but I knew the faucet was. I told them I have the ultimate upgrade and they don't get it. Plus, I had to spend an hour trying to get through and battle with them, tell the realtor and then the realtor's got to call. It's ridiculous.

If you have to call American Home Shield, you're going to be on the phone for at least an hour. You're on hold for 30 minutes at least then you get to talk to somebody. It's an ordeal and it's hard to be happy when you get put to the ringer constantly. Their customer service is not very good and they need to hire more people. But I like the basis of the home warranty. It is a good value if you know how to use the policy. I signed up my brother in Alabama and I've recommended it to people here.

The heater wasn't turning on. I had a claim for it about four months before that and it came on and it stayed on for about 15 seconds, then it clicked off. This time, it didn't do anything. I filed the claim for it online and the contractors that they sent were pretty good and very professional. They came in and pretty much knew what the issue was. When they started troubleshooting the problem, they pulled out the fuse, got another fuse and put it in. As they were putting that second fuse in, it started arcing and it blew that fuse. So, they said that there were some wires that were rubbing. They took it off and got another fuse and put it back in. Everything was working fine as advertised. I had American Home Shield since around 2000 and I was always the one who waits for an operator. But this time, I did everything online and it was really quick. It was on a Sunday and I heard back from them, and the next day, Monday, the contractors were here.

My washing machine has not worked since November. I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield by going online and leaving a message as to what is not working. I can hardly get a person on the line, so I don’t have a choice but to do it online. If I get a person on the line, I will hold for over an hour. I had a good interaction with the contractor that came out to repair my washing machine. Since I dealt with this company for the last two or three times that they came out, they've been fine. They told me that they were there to put the new part in and that it was virtually a new machine that they had rebuilt after all the updates that they had done to my washing machine. The last time that they were here was on Tuesday and I had good service from them. The washing machine has been performing well since the repair.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield regarding my oven. I did it online and navigating through their website was fine and easy. However, it took them about four days to finally get it to work the way it is supposed to. The first time the contractors came out, they fixed the igniter switch for the oven. A week later, I tried to use the boiler and it didn't work so they came back for that. But, they had trouble with that. The first tech ordered the part but the other tech came out and thought the first one didn't order it right. I had to call Sears several times then we finally got that ordered. The last tech who came the other day finally figured out that the first tech had wired it wrong and the part wasn't defective to begin with. But everything has been performing fine now. The warranty is valuable for certain things. I had a pipe break this winter but the warranty didn't work for that. But, I understand that it has its purpose and overall, it's a good value.

When our swimming pool thing got broken, I called American Home Shield and told them to come out and fix it. I also told them what exactly was going with it. I always call anything in that needs repairs. So they came out and said they can do the job. However, a specific thing on it was not covered under the policy. And it would have been nicer if they could have told us that over the phone when we were specific with them and we told them the issue, particularly the crack on it. They could have said they don't cover that, instead of sending somebody out and have anyone come out and tell us the same thing.

After they said it wasn't covered, I called the company and told them what the contractors had told me. Also, I didn't feel that I needed to pay that copay because they should have told us that from the get-go. The representative from AHS offered a refund for the money we had already paid out and we're still waiting for it. This was a better experience than the last experience we had where they didn't cover something as well. And we told them right off the bat what it was and attempted them to give us the refund but they didn't. So I tipped on to get it to higher-ups and for whatever reason, they just negated that. I even told them that I don't understand why they would do that when they know it wasn't covered. They said it was my responsibility as a homeowner to check out our policy and read the fine print so I will know exactly what's covered and what isn't.

I said to them that I thought all I had to do is pick up the phone and tell them what's going on and ask if it is covered or not, They told me that it was covered, it's recorded that it was covered but they didn't want to refund the money. So, we almost quit the company at that point in time, and we ended up not. We ended up staying with it.

Another thing is that we have another property on the same block and it's already been two and a half months and they're trying to fix our refrigerator. It's been months of just waiting and I just wish they would have told me that I could buy a little tiny fridge for my mom. She's elderly and then I have a brother who is handicapped. The representative from AHS told me that I could buy a tiny fridge and then they can reimburse me up to $75. I wish they would have told us that a long time ago. I submitted the request for the $75, so hopefully, they'll refund that.

Additionally, they came back out again recently and there's something wrong with the compressor still. So I called American Home Shield and told them the inconvenience is awful. Plus the oil from the refrigerator was so heavy and there was so much of it that it saturated the house. We had to open up the doors and everything. I asked them if there's anything they can do because I don't want them to come back out again and also put my mom and my brother through that experience.

The representative double checked on it and called the company up and the company said the compressor's under warranty. She would have offered a cashout but then, they cannot do that because it's under warranty. So now, it's just a matter of waiting again and seeing how long it takes for them to come out. On the other hand, what we're going to do is as soon as they fix this refrigerator, I'm going to cancel both policies, on the two houses. Although the guys that came out were doing their job to the best of their ability. I've just been very gracious but I'm just tired and had enough.

I called American Home Shield on the 9th for a microwave claim. It is going to be a month and I still don’t have a workable microwave. It was a Friday, and they didn't tell me that it would take business days to get the problem corrected. I was assuming they would call me back on Saturday. Then the guy who did the initial visit just took a flashlight, looked at it and said, “Oh, I have this problem all the time.” He said that I needed a fuse and a new C-board so I was thinking he had the part in his car but he didn't. He said that he was going to submit my information to American Home Shield and send it right back. But he didn’t. I called them on Saturday but I couldn't get anybody. I called back Monday and American Home Shield told me that they didn't receive the information. So I called the company again and they said they mailed it out Friday. So then I called back to AHS and was a little irate. Then all of a sudden they found the information.

They told me that they have to put the thing into a part where they have to send away for the part. That has never happened before. I always had a contractor that had the part in his car. So I didn't understand me sending away and getting a newer part. They said it would take between five and seven business days and they kept jumping me around from person to person. I felt like I was at city hall. Every time I talked to somebody different, I had to go through the whole process of telling my story over and over. I got to the point where I started writing things down from the different times I called. It was pathetic.

Finally, the part came back between the 16th and 20th. Another guy brought the part in, put it in and made the microwave beep. But then he said that the microwave was going to have to be replaced. At that point, I was really upset because I had been without a microwave since the 9th of March. He said that I have to put a request in for AHS to order a new microwave, or that they can buy one and it would take between 7 to 10 days for AHS to refund our money. I said that I was already paying a service fee. Why would I go out here and spend money when they were supposed to supply it? That didn’t make sense to me so I said that I was not doing it.

Over the last week, I've been having issues with American Home Shield calling me back. The person who’s supposed to get new appliances don't take in calls. They only call back. They said that they would call back within 24 to 48 hours but I told them that I work all day so I will not be available for them to be calling me in between those hours. I gave them a time in which they could call me and I also said that if they couldn't call me, then they should call my husband and I gave them his number. A lot of times, they called when I couldn't talk to them. Finally, somebody called me back. We just got the number of the microwave that we're going to use today. They gave us the date when they are supposed to come back and put the new microwave in and it would be April 10th.

I asked them if there was anything they could do for me because I was not satisfied with my service. They said that I have to write a letter. They gave me the address so I could write to the corporation itself. The contractor wants to blame American Home Shield and American Home Shield wants to blame the contractor. Anybody wants to blame somebody, but in the end I'm the one who’s suffering. I work all the time and I have microwavable food so I can just come in and cook my food. But I can't even do that now. I have to turn my oven on to get something done.

All I kept getting was, "Oh, I'm sorry. Is there anything else I can help you with?” I don’t need help with anything else. I need this problem resolved. I never could talk to a supervisor or anybody in charge either. It's like there’s no accountability. It would do them justice if they have contractors that can be depended on. They need contractors that have the parts available for people. If AHS is taking all the information down on a certain appliance that we're using, the contractors should already know what part to have and to have it ready on the double when they come back to the house. It shouldn't take more than a week. It used to be that way when the contractor took money upfront once they finished the job. But now, AHS takes the money off the credit card or they wait till after.

Around the same time I submitted the claim for the microwave, I had a plumbing issue fixed. And because I was having so much problems with the microwave, I went in with the garbage disposal claim and did the lay work. I put the claim in over the phone and once they told me who the plumber was and it was someone I had used before, I called the plumber and made the appointment myself. The garbage disposal was dripping water so the plumber put a new part in, and he had the part in his car. So I don’t understand how American Home Shield has contractors that have parts and other contractors that don’t. I told American Home Shield to not give me the same contractor back that has to put the microwave in, although I have to use them now because they already took their service fee. But after that, I told them to take me off the list for this contractor.

I had work done with AHS and they have all been good. But I couldn't get service when I needed it and I had to wait for three to five days because of where I live. It's my choice where I live but I still think AHS could do a better job in sending somebody out within 24 hours versus 72 hours. I usually call in and I tell them what my issue is, then they find somebody. But sometimes that contractor couldn't see me until they were out here doing other jobs because they didn't want to come here. I'm about 20 minutes away from the city and they didn't want to make that just one trip. Then AHS would tell me that that was my only choice if I wanted to use them.

Also, I was never told that I didn't have a water softener coverage. I was supposed to read the contract thoroughly and I knew it was part of signing it, but I assumed that would have been covered. When I purchased this house three years ago, I wanted to make sure I had something just in case because it's an older house for 20 years old. When I got the paperwork from AHS, there were so many fine lines in them. The rep went over everything with me on the contract but I didn’t feel like she was doing her job. So, I went and got my own coverage for the water softener.

Another issue I have with AHS is that sometimes when I call something in, they'll tell me I don't have enough warranty. That's impossible and I was never notified of anything. When I had issues in the past about getting a straight answer and knowing what was going on, I'd say, "Okay, thank you" and I'd hang up. When I called again, they'd say that my contract was all good. I came to find out later, too, that there are a lot of places that AHS doesn't cover either. It’s like a give and take. When I had to get my radiant heat fixed during Christmas, it took me two to three weeks to get it fixed. It didn't really bother me because I wasn't home. American Home Shield said they had some space heaters and they put them in the house for me. In the other house in San Antonio, I had a problem with the rubber that seals my dishwasher. I called AHS to fix it but it never got really fixed. Then, they turned around and said that it was not under warranty.

Other than that, the contractors who made it out were good. When I first had an issue, they sent out Stuart Plumbing and they took care of the problem. The second time that I had an issue, AHS told me that Stuart Plumbing couldn't come out because they no longer had a contract with them. But when I called Stuart Plumbing, they said, "What are they talking about?" So sometimes, it seems like the people at AHS that answer the phone don't have very much knowledge. When I called AHS back, the rep I talked to said that Stuart Plumbing could come out and that they would send them whatever was needed so that they could accept the job. So, there was a lot of contradiction and it could be frustrating.

Then, when I called AHS for the 3rd time, they told me that Stuart Plumbing couldn't come out, so they sent another company called Moreno to fix my water heater. Then, I found out from the 5th guy who came out for the same appliance when I had trouble later that the job wasn't done right through Moreno. I had an issue again after I had Moreno here and when I asked AHS for Stuart Plumbing, they told me that I didn’t have an option and that the contractor would be whoever they could get a hold of. But I didn't like everybody coming in my house and I would rather keep that same person or company coming, if possible, because I live up in the mountain. The last contractor that came out was Rex Plumbing and they were great. Now, everything has been taken care of.

All in all, I just take AHS with a grain of salt. Eventually, if they continue having issues I'm sure I'll start looking elsewhere. But I tend to just let things go and keep on going back to American Home Shield. I've never used anybody else because, in the past, the house that we lived in was under a warranty of some sort, so warranties come out taking care of stuff. My father-in-law had AHS and he recently canceled the warranty on March 19th. But AHS billed him until the end of March. When he called them about it, they said that they bill throughout for the following month after canceling his contract.

I called American Home Shield for a gas leak and I was on hold for about two hours. And I only stayed on hold that long just because it was a gas leak. I would think that because it was a gas leak, she would have expedited the call. But I had to wait 48-hours for a gas leak. But the agent was pleasant and the contractor was personable, professional and on time.

We found the gas leak because the city had come out and shut off my gas because of the leak. So the contractor had already pinpoint at the leak that the city found and he was supposed to see if he could make sure that those are the only leaks. But the contractor just fixed the leaks that the city guy found. And then when he came back the next time he had missed the leak. I thought it was already fine but shortly thereafter I went home for the holidays and I've been gone for a month. And so now I'm back and it still smells like gas so I really need to call the contractor.

Also AHS could come on board to the 2018 era and maybe have a way for customers to see their billing history online or at least get an invoice of some sort on a regular basis showing what they've spent and what their contract price is. I've never seen anything like that from them and that's crazy. Lately, I had to file a dispute with the Better Business Bureau to find out what happened to the money from the credit I got from when I sold my house. And it was a back and forth tug of war with them through the Better Business Bureau just to get a simple answer on what credit card they refunded the money to. Because they're claiming that they refunded it to my credit card

The fact that I even had to go that far and go to the Better Business Bureau says enough. I've been with American Home Shield since 2008 and here and there there has been a problem with the service contractors and that's to be expected. But there's a system issue with American Home Shield. And I stay with them because I have real property and it was easier to deal with the devil that you know than the one you don't so at least I know what to expect from them. They can do better with their customer service just in general.

And the whole time, from when you call, when you make a request to have something done, nobody calls you back. You ask for a supervisor, you never get to speak to a supervisor or one never calls you back. So overall, if you’re looking for quality service technicians and work then they’re great. If you're looking for quality customer service I would not recommend them. If you're okay with sacrificing one for the other, meaning quality workmanship, then go with them.

We bought the house and closed in on August 1. The garage door opener was working just fine back then, but within four months it wasn’t working at all. I didn’t even know if that was covered or not, but I looked at the policy and saw that it was. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and was told there would be a $75 charge for it, which was fine. The company that American Home Shield called could not have been any better. They were superb.

The guy came and found out that the garage opener was improperly installed. And he was amazed that it was functioning at all or that it had functioned for six years. Because of the nature of the problem, it wasn’t covered under my policy, but I was so impressed with the folks that came out that I negotiated a deal with them to replace it with me paying for it. And that’s exactly what we did and it now works like a charm, so I was very satisfied. In effect, I paid American Home Shield $75 to send me to the right people, but that was fine.

The guy that came out was on time, polite, competent and thorough. I liked him very much. He called his brother, who owns the company and has a lot more experience than him, because it was such an unusual situation. He had never seen it before, and his brother said that it was put in essentially backwards as far as the tension is concerned. When they came out in a few weeks later to put the new one in, they had to be very careful about how they took the old one down because it had been put in so wrong. I paid Them $330 for labor and I bought the new controller for $150. So, it was about $500 to get my whole problem solved, plus the $75 to American Home Shield.

The online process for filing the claim was just fine. And American Home Shield communicated with me several times, asking me how things were going, and I communicated back. I didn’t have a single problem with them and hopefully in the remainder of this year I won’t file any more claims, but if I do I’m sure I’ll have a good experience. I've also recommended them.

He told me what was going on and the parts that we needed. I was having trouble with my ice maker and he found another problem and he ended up taking care of both of them. He was done really quickly and the refrigerator has been working great after his repair. Having the warranty has been very valuable and I'd highly recommend AHS.

The rollers in my dryer had broken. I went online to American Home Shield and then usually it takes about three days. But I was really forcing it and the contractor they had chosen had a cancellation so he showed up within 15 minutes so I was really satisfied. Everything was fixed right away and he replaced the rollers. The dryer now works the same as it did before but without the loud noise that it had with the broken rollers. He did a great job.

I had some very bad feedback for American Home Shield in the past and it was a horrific time, so I was very surprised with this most recent claim. I had an air-conditioner that was broken and the contractor came out and looked at it. He quoted me a different price and I was made to pay for the Freon to put in there which was as much as $1,000 additional cost. So I was just going to buy the Freon myself and have my friend fix the problem. But the contractor said it was part of their contract and that they were required to do it. I ended up buying a brand new air-conditioner because of that.

I have a claim for our dryer. The contractor identified the problem very quickly and ordered the parts. The parts came in and I got the phone call this morning but we had an issue with one of the service guys. He wasn’t able to come out and meet the deadline so we rescheduled for Monday afternoon which is fine. So far, I’m fine with American Home Shield and I’m happy with the providers. I file my claims on the phone instead of online because I want to talk to a live person. I want some responsibility and accountability. I don’t want to just schedule online and hope that somebody’s going to call me. If something’s broken and I wanted some help right now, I will be told that they will get to me within 24-48 hours. We’re on the back side of the contract when it comes to the time to renew the warranty for our house and we’re probably going to open up an American Home Shield account.

My wife and I have been selling real estate since 2000 and we’ve been recommending First American and then they literally fell off. It’s sad to say that they haven’t been treating our customers well and us too. We mandate that all of our buyers or sellers use a home warranty company. The home inspection is very good but I’ve had situations that during the first week after closing, something bad has happened. It’s either the refrigerator, air conditioner, a washing machine, a dryer, a plumbing leak or an electrical problem that wasn’t discovered. And when you have a buyer who spent all the money in their account plus borrowing a lot of money in the form of a mortgage and the last thing they want to have is a washing machine that isn’t working and the laundry for two kids piling up. So it's a great peace of mind having a home warranty that’s why we believe in them now. I have recommended American Home Shield to everybody I know.

It takes so long for American Home Shield to get a contractor out. When I had a claim for the air conditioner, I had to wait a week for the air conditioner people to come out. And it was so hot in the summer that I had to go to my sisters because we could not stay in the house. Then when I filed a claim for the water heater leak, I had explained to them that it was leaking water and I needed someone to come out immediately to cut it off. But they said that the water tank was probably just emptying out and that it was not an emergency. but as the night went on, it was still leaking.

I had to call AHS back and tell them that it was an emergency because water was running in my garage and messing up the wall. So they said that they would get the people to come out the next morning, which was a Saturday. The leak also set up black mold around the little wooden stand that the water heater sits down. And by the time the guy from the company that AHS was sending showed up, I had found somebody and had it cut off already.

That guy sent by AHS just looked at the water heater and said that I needed a new one. I asked him if he could do it today, but he said that he had to get an approval from AHS first, so he could probably do it on Monday. By that time, I had found someone to put in the water heater. Though he did do a good job replacing the knobs on my shower.

I called American Home Shield and told them that I had someone else put in the water heater for me, and so they said that they would pay for the water heater because the guy they sent out would have figured that this other company wanted $900 out of my pocket, including a $289 charge for the pan which only cost $35 when the guy, who I had it done, got it. It was ridiculous. But AHS ended up giving me the money for the cost of the water heater.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for many years. But upon selling my home, and cancelling the warranty, they have left a seriously bad taste in my mouth, and I won't ever be using them again. Their coverage was acceptable. When I sold my house and cancelled my warranty, I was told that there would be no additional payments required, and that my business with them had concluded. As it turns out this was not true at all. Without informing me, they had already begun processing another payment, which as luck would have it, came out of an account without sufficient funds to cover this payment (I was in the process of closing all my accounts with this financial institution upon the sale of my home).

I was hit with an overdraft fee from my bank, so I called them. They were very rude on the phone, and then informed me that there is an "administrative fee" that is incurred whenever a customer cancels their account, equal to one month's payment, which was not disclosed to me upon cancellation. So they refused to refund me the monthly fee (even though I no longer have a warranty for that month), or even reimburse me for the overdraft fee for posting an unauthorized transaction to my account. The representative informed me that "There's not gonna be any refund!". Worst customer service ever.

When I called them again they said that the refund was processed (when I called them first time, not when I cancelled the request) and it takes 10 B days. Bottom line: if I didn't call them asking for my money back that was supposed to be refunded automatically, they would keep it and never refunded. It doesn't make any sense!

I've been having problems with my air-conditioning unit since last year. There were some leaks in the system, one of which was a significant one that went through my ceiling because my main unit is in my attic. After going through a couple of rounds, AHS replaced it. Then, I had a situation where when I came back from out of town doing some hurricane relief, I realized that the money wasn't deducted out of my pay like it usually is. I called AHS about it and they said they cancelled it because there was something with the routing number or card that I used, so I fixed that. Then, they told me that instead of paying $79 a month, I needed to pay an increased fee of $110 because of the number of calls for stuff around the house.

My house is going on 10 years. It's still a fairly modern home and it's close to 4,000 square feet. It's a huge home so there are different things that go wrong and that's the reason behind having a home warranty. I felt I was penalized for having too many service calls and I didn't think that was fair. But right now, I don’t have a choice because AHS is the best thing going.

Recently, my A/C unit outside was making a very loud noise. The contractor came out and worked on it. They said the reason that some pressure was making so much noise was because the A/C was low on Freon. So, they replaced that and I had to pay $170. Freon does not come cheap these days. Plus, I paid my $75 for the contractors to come out. Now, we got everything working properly again. Then I had to call AHS back for a recall because the compressor was still making a loud noise. When the guy came out, he was very understanding and he told me that he wanted to be the best so he could fix the problem but AHS would not pay to replace the unit until it goes out. I asked him how much does one unit cost and when he told me how much, I knew why AHS didn’t want to pay to get it replaced because the outside unit is expensive.

But at the same time, the inside unit that's in my attic was expensive, too. It's just so much a point in time where I have fair wear and tear and things start going out. I live in Texas and it gets hot here. I was talking to the technician and I told him that I understood what he said but I’m afraid that what happened to me last summer would happen again. When the unit in my attic went out, my family and I were in a hot house for almost two weeks before the replacement unit came in. It had to be ordered but I dealt with it.

Now that I'm dealing with the outside unit that's going on over 10 years old with a compressor that's on its last leg, I have a strong feeling that it will go out in the sweltering 100 degree heat in Texas and when it does, I'm going to have to wait again until the new unit comes in then wait for AHS to put me in the lineup to get it installed. All in all, I'm not dissatisfied with AHS and it's better to have the warranty than not have it. However, the reason behind raising my monthly fee and the fact that my outside unit is on its last leg but I have to wait until it goes completely out before I can get a replacement, are ridiculous.

The contractor went around back and checked trying to find out why the pilot light went out. And it shouldn't have so he was a little perplexed on that part but he was able to get it up and running in 5 minutes. They tested it a few times and it continued to ignite every time. It was my second time to use American Home Shield and I've been very satisfied every time. The tech American Home Shield sent had the right part but it didn't work. When they finally figured out what was wrong with it, they told me they had to call me the next day, which is Thursday, and let me know when the part would come in. But, I've never heard anything from them. I waited until Monday and I called them. I kept getting excuses after excuse why they weren't out there. One time they told me that the parts man has gone to pick up the part so I told them to have him call me whenever he gets back. He called me and he said that they didn't have the part and that they'll have to get another one.

I was unhappy with the vendor. I called them back in a couple of days since I didn't hear anything from them. The part still didn't come in. Then I called them back a day after that and they said that the parts man has gone to pick up the part. I told them to have him call me and when he called, he said that the parts were out there. I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. American Home Shield called them and then within 30 minutes, they called me and said the contractor would be out the next day to install the part. The air conditioner was fixed but they said that we can't really judge it in cold weather so I don't know if it's going to work properly or not.

The last time that I had American Home Shield send someone out was for the faucet on the west side of my house where the garden hose connects. The day before, my neighbor had come over and told me that there was a pile of ice underneath the dripping faucet. He had tried to turn it off and he couldn't stop the dripping, although I had already shut off the water from my vault. It was already cold weather and he said that I wouldn't want the faucet dripping all winter as this could freeze the water back up inside the faucet, so he advised that I call and get somebody to take care of it. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. I also called and told them what the problem was and they sent the plumbers out. The customer service level was super when I spoke with the rep.

There were two fairly young guys who came and they were very observant. They told me all the way through what they were going to do. They said they had to replace the faucet and the pipes that came into the side of the house and because it was a more than $200 repair job, they had to get permission. They moved the freezer that was on that wall and a couple of other things for me, then they put all these back together when they were done. After they had taken the outer thing off, they told me that a screw had broken off inside the faucet. Since the repair, the performance of the plumbing has been very good.

I got the information about American Home Shield from my lady neighbor who has the service and has been fairly satisfied with it. Likewise, I would highly recommend American Home Shield to people, especially if they're in my situation. I would like to be able to take care of this house, but I live alone and I'm 73 years old, and I can't do the hard things. I'd like, though, to have a card with American Home Shield's phone number because if my computer was off, then I wouldn't be able to get a hold of them. When I can't move a refrigerator or repair a faucet, I'm going to have to call somebody.

The house that I moved into had three leaks, two under the sink and one in the commode in the master bath. I called AHS to submit the claim and it was easy. I was told that someone will call me within a certain length of time. I was assigned Hardy Plumbing and they called me and set up the appointment really quickly. They then came out within a day or two, did the service, and they did a great job. Then another time, my son came to visit from California for Thanksgiving. He used the guest bathroom to shower and it squealed. I called AHS for it and requested the same contractors and two guys came out, one of which was a lot experienced and very knowledgeable and the other one was in training. That experience went very nicely and I was very pleased.

I got ahold of AHS and they immediately rescheduled and had somebody out here the next day. He was very professional and extremely nice. I was just a little surprised when I saw how old his equipment was. The other company that had been out before some time ago had brand new equipment. Nevertheless, he got the job done. It took him some time but everything’s running good now.

Submitting a claim online for the air conditioning was perfectly okay. However, when the contractor tried to fix the issue, he fixed the motor on the A/C condenser when he already knew that the top part where that's set down was bent so it was making the fan blades wobble and he even told me that the motor was going to be bad again. So, I don’t understand why he did not try to fix or order the top part of it as well. Still, American Home Shield is good. That was more of the contractor's fault. I have the tech company coming again today.

I've had two claims since I bought my house in November of 2017. The first one was a blower on my furnace. And the furnace was probably 25 years old. We couldn't get someone the same day and it was 16 degrees so I had to go out and find somebody else. And then they called American Home Shield and requested a dispatch number and then they were allowed to perform the service and I had the new part in the same day which was great. The only confusion was that because I found my own service provider and American Home Shield didn't send me one, they charged me $75 even though I found my own. They have to get compensated for doing the paperwork or whatever that it takes to have the whole claim in process.

My other claim was my oven. I would set it on broil or set it on a high temperature and the electric part of it would go out. It's a gas range, but has the electricity temperature touch screen on the top, and it would go out. First, we had someone come out to look at the oven and he determined that it wasn't the oven. They determined it was an electrical problem so an electrician came and it all went fine. Everything was done and I just had to pay the $75 both times. It was timely and the quality of the service was good.

I filed my claims online and American Home Shield's website was good. I'm an IT person so I'm pretty much familiar with different things. It was pretty simple. My experience has been great and I'm really happy I have American Home Shield because I feel very secure. I have a 25-year-old house with appliances that are older. And although some of the appliances are brand new that the previous owners purchased, you still never know.

The septic tank, I've never had one of those before. I'd never know if that's going to go out, have a problem or back up. So it really gives me peace of mind having the Home Shield warranty, which the home seller paid for. I'd tell others about my experience and that they should definitely get a warranty no more matter who they go with. But I'm with American Home Shield and they've been fine and they covered both items.

I called American Home Shield and told them that the heater wasn’t working anymore. They told me they would call somebody to schedule the service, and they would be calling the place that they contracted for them to go out and fix it and then let me know. The representative was great. Also, the contractor was nice. He showed up when he was supposed to and did a good job.

The only thing that I was shocked and frustrated about was that I was under the impression that the warranty covered everything that needed to be fixed to get a particular thing working, but then American Home Shield only paid for the heater part and not for the new gas line to have it operate correctly. I had to pay out of pocket for any other part that needed to be updated. At that point, I was pushed against the rock in a hard spot. I didn't have a choice and I had to get the heater fixed, so I told them to go ahead and replace the two things that were not covered. I paid $475 and an additional $100 for the service call. I wasn't happy because I've had the warranty for over a year and a half and I've been paying on it, then on the one time I used it, I still have to come up with $475 more. But after the repair, the heater is working and everything has been great.

He couldn't find the problem for a long time but eventually, he did. He helped us find out that the coolant has sprayed at the back of the refrigerator and when the technician cleaned the material off, the smell went away. However, while cleaning out the compressor was helpful and the smell did went away, we think that it is not the full solution to the problem. The refrigerator still has a very loud thump every once in a while that is happening several times a day. It didn’t happen while the technician was there so it was hard to show him.

Recently, we filed a claim over the phone for our toilet that was blocked. The American Home Shield rep was nice, she understood very easily, and she right away assigned the case. The contractor came in at the scheduled time. He brought some tools with him and he put them in the toilet and took the blockage out. The contractor fixed the toilet in just five minutes and left, and everything was good since the repair. However, last time there was a bit of a confusion and it had something to do with the service three months back when I had an AC problem. AHS opened a case and everything was scheduled, and a service company, some Green Service, was supposed to come. However, all of a sudden, without any information, Green canceled the service. I was waiting for them, and when I tried to call them, they said the service request was canceled.

But I didn’t cancel because that was the peak of winter. It was snowing outside and the heater was not working. When I called AHS, they said I could find any vendor, and they were ready to pay for it. So, I called another local vendor and they came here. That was a last-minute service call on a Saturday. It was actually scheduled at 3:00 but nobody showed up, and I was trying to get the person at 4:00. The vendor fixed the AC, and they helped me through all this process to submit the paperwork to AHS. I paid around $200 because they were charging extra for the weekend and also for the night service. AHS reimbursed me but I had to spend two hours on the phone with all the vendors to find one who could come out. And I don’t blame AHS because it was Green that canceled the service. That was the only bad experience I have had and apart from that, everything was done at the scheduled time.

I referred American Home Shield to two of my friends, so I'm okay with the service. We are in the same community and our builder finds vendors for us. However, the vendors were a bit rude so we didn’t like everyone. When I found AHS and I did the two services, I explained to my friends what happened and they signed up for AHS too. I told them that we don’t need to depend on only one vendor because AHS has multiple vendors. The company can assign whoever is available, so the work is faster than what we expect.

When I purchased the house, the safety cut-off switch on my furnace didn’t work. Part of the sale contingency was that the sellers would provide the warranty so I could get that switch fixed and I was given one with American Home Shield. Submitting the claim with them was easy. I did it through their online process then the contractor contacted me. They were quick to schedule and their guy came out on a Saturday, which was great. He took a look at the system and he seemed well informed and knowledgeable about it. He didn’t have the part so he said that he was going to go back to the office and order it. But he never followed up to have the piece installed and they never rescheduled an installation date. So I haven’t had the problem resolved yet and I've been waiting for a month now. AHS should follow up with the contractors to make sure that the job was actually done.

The other thing was that they didn’t have a way to give details about the claim. All I could say was that I had a heating problem. If there was a way that they could add a little more detail, like if I knew what the issue was or that I needed a part replaced, they could have had somebody come out that had the part or they could have asked me what the model number for my heater was so they could have gotten it resolved more quickly. Other than that, when I got to talk with AHS' reps, they were very polite and informative.

Their technician, Isaiah, came on March 22, then he had to get a part and he came back with that. I called American Home Shield and told them how wonderful he was and that I was very pleased. I also had an issue with my washer and AHS sent PJ Appliance for that. Hugh, the gentleman who came, was very professional and knowledgeable. Even American Home Shield's office staff was very helpful in getting the services scheduled and following up. I was very impressed.

I always take note of whoever American Home Shield sends out. I made notes for the ones that were really good and the ones that I didn’t want back. And Complete Residential Services and PJ Appliance were both excellent. I had some experience that didn’t turn out the way it did with these guys but American Home Shield followed through whenever I had a problem and made it right. At one point, they even had to put a substitute company in and did not charge me a second fee. So far, I’ve had very good success over many years with American Home Shield and I’d recommend them. I went with them back in ’99 then, when I was flooded out, I put in all new appliances so I stopped for a couple of years because the appliances were still under warranty. As they got a little older, I went back to American Home Shield.

AHS sent somebody out once and they said, “Oh, there's nothing wrong with it. You just turned it on for the first time.” But then the next time I turned it on it did again. It would start doing it at 1:00 in the morning because there's only a couple of times when it was really cold enough to turn the heat on. The tech came out today to replace the compressor motor and one of the fan blades on either condenser or compressor.

Submitting the claim has been easy. We paid the first initial service fee and then when we had to call them back out. They didn’t charge us for that because they hadn’t fixed what was wrong. They kind of formed it out and had the air people call back quickly after we called and submitted the claim. The first tech that came was a friendly guy. He ran some tests but said that there was nothing wrong but the second tech that came out took the top off of the compressor unit and immediately saw that the motor was messed up. There was a coil and he's like, “That should be inside this unit,” and it was kind of hanging down so it sounded like ball bearings screeching. He had to order the piece, so the guy that came out today was actually installing. This was the same company but the third different guy that came out. AHS has been good so far.

American Home Shield sent out technicians and they came twice. The first tech came to fix the pump because it wasn’t working on the furnace. He was awesome. And then, an electronic thing went up and a week later, he came back but it was a holiday and he was on vacation so they had to call another company. They were okay and they told me to call BGE because there's a leak but they didn't return my call. I called BGE anyway and they came and fixed half of the leak, and now it’s off again. I’m in the cold right now and so BGE will come back tomorrow and hopefully, it would work this time. If not, then I might have to call back if it’s not a BGE issue again.

We couldn’t get our washer to set right and we couldn't get hot water to come through. The tech came out within a couple of days at the appropriate time. He reset the computer and that solved the problem. Then he showed us how to run the machine. He was very good. Now, I could wash the clothes again. I paid $125 for that experience, plus $50 a month. I’m visually impaired, so I file claims by phone and the reps have been very polite and helpful. Moreover, everything has been good so far. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

American Home Shield is good unless you have an immediate emergency because it sometimes takes up to 24 hours. So, if you have a plumbing issue, which we had with the house when we first moved in, we needed to call an emergency plumber. But our experience with American Home Shield worked out very well and we had a pretty quick service from them.

We were having an electrical issue with the house. Half the electricity was gone. We had the electrical company come out, and they said the problem was with the house. Then we went through American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online as I don’t like talking on the phone. They brought an electrician in who looked at the problem and said that it was actually the electrical company's concern. So the contractor contacted the electrical company, and let them know exactly what they foresaw the problem was, and then the electrical company came back out and fixed it. The repair was not done by the electricians that were contacted through American Home Shield, but we needed electricity and we got it back on in our house.

The company sent HVAC repair guys to fix my unit. You pay a 70 dollar service fee (which is fine). They came, fixed the unit, all good. That was in September of 2017 I paid 350 buck for refrigerant (again fine)... Now in April 2018 6 1/2 months later it's 4 pounds low on freon. They didn't fix it right the first time. Now want me to pay an additional 400 Dollars. Absolutely ridiculous, I have experience in the HVAC Field. I could have fixed this myself and saved 500 bucks. It's a sham company... DO NOT BUY ANY WARRANTY FROM THEM!!! They will patch stuff for 6 months and have you paying more than you would if you called and got the repairs done yourself. Rip off.

I was very satisfied up to the point where my refrigerator died and needed to be replaced. The technician was great and that's when the problem started from that point. We took me 2 and a 1/2 hours on the phone and a hold for the appliance customer service department to even get somebody to respond to me regarding my refrigerator replacements. I understand they're highly understaffed and I was told the average wait time is 2 to 2 and a 1/2 hours. That is true. This is now happened to me 2 times. I decided to let go of my frustration after I had a great customer service rep take care of me after the 2 1/2 hour wait. The replacement took approximately 30 days which was something that I was very upset about but chose to pick my fights.

This last Friday I was supposed to get my refrigerator but I had never received a confirmation of time of delivery. I called AHS and I had to 4 times with a total of 2 1/2 hours on hold and getting nowhere and the worst customer service. No one would help me and until the last call I was transferred to the escalation team where I was helped. Very, very disappointed in your customer service.

I have had 2 experiences with AHS, both were bad. This first was on a refrigerator ice maker for my Humble Texas home. When it went out I replaced it myself because it was cheaper than my $125.00 deductible. However, after replacing it, the icemaker still was not making ice so I contacted AHS. I advised them that I had replaced the icemaker but it still did not work.

They scheduled an appointment, I work 30 miles from the home, and I took time off to have this corrected. When the tech called to tell me he would be there, I told him what I had already done as well. Side note, I have a friend who owns a refrigeration company and he told me LG has a well known problem with water lines freezing up in the door. The fix, according to him, was to replace the door.

The technician came out and replaced the ice maker again, despite the fact that I had already done so. He advised me to call him if it didn't fix the problem... It didn't so I called. He told me he would order a part and return, he did not say what part he was ordering. When it finally came in, he called and scheduled another appointment which I had to take more time off work to address. This time 2 other techs were there to install a water valve. After over an hour, they said the water valve they were sent was defective but they had verified that was DEFINITELY the problem. They ordered another one and would contact me when it came in. Again, I had advised them of my friend's comment regarding the freezer door... Which they ignored.

That evening, I noticed the black stainless coating on the freezer door was peeling. I contacted LG and they scheduled someone to come out and look at the door. He came out on a Saturday saving me from taking more time off work and promptly ordered a new freezer door. A few days later, the tech contracted by AHS called me to schedule an appointment to install the new water valve. I took off work again and met them. They installed the part and assured me that there was "nothing else it could be". Well, they were wrong again... The icemaker still did not work. This time, I did not call them because I knew LG had ordered a new door that would likely fix my problem. It came in a few days later and the tech installed it. Lo and behold, I now have an ice maker that works... No thanks to AHS and their contracted technicians. All's well that ends well except I'm out the $125.00 for the deductible plus multiple trips and wasted time off from work.

My second experience with them is on a home we purchased about a month ago. We purchased another AHS contract and included pool equipment in the contract. The home went through a vigorous home inspection where the inspector verified all the equipment was in working order. He did not take off panels from the equipment, but simply verified everything was functioning. The other day, I tried to use the pool heater but could not get it to light. I contacted the company that performed the inspection and he verified that it lit during the inspection, but he came out again and checked.

Again, he got it to light but turned it back off since no one was home and he didn't want to leave it on without someone there. I tried the next day and it would not light so I called him back. He immediately came over but this time he could not get it to light either. Note: my son-in-law SAW him during the original inspection get it to light. I then contacted AHS and requested service. The technician contacted me and showed up early that morning. Since this home is much closer, I decided to meet him there. He was finished in minutes because he called me and told me not to bother driving over. He said that there was corrosion in the unit from the chlorine tabs, which he said is common, that had caused problems with the unit. He also stated he didn't believe the inspector ever got it to light, though I now know for a fact he did because of my son-in-law's comments.

I received a call this morning from AHS to let me know that corrosion from chemicals is "not normal and not covered". I have verified through multiple pool technicians that this in fact IS common, though I'm quite sure there's an exclusion in the contract regarding corrosion. At any rate, I'm not satisfied with AHS at this time because I paid $125.00 for the refrigerator deductible and a $75.00 deductible for the pool heater, and neither one was covered.

They require that the fee be paid at the time of the service request so there was no option here. I'm not sure what I'd like from them other than refunds of my deductibles, though a betterment toward another pool heater would be more satisfactory, but I'm sure that's not going to happen. All I can say is that I would not, at this time, recommend AHS to anyone. Their technicians seem to be lacking in knowledge and I guess they will make up any claims through non-covered claim deductibles.

She took all the information and then, gave me the information of who was gonna come and take a look. However, I thought he would respond in 24 hours but the contractor didn't call until two days later. I had to call and text him. I asked if he was gonna show up or not. He said that he would come the following day. It took a few days for him to respond. It was cold and I have kids. If a contractor couldn't serve the customer in 24 hours, especially when it's cold and the issue is about heat and there are kids in the house, AHS shouldn't work with them.

When the contractor showed up, he figured out what was wrong and said he had to order a part. Then he didn't show up the next day. I had to call him again and he said that he had a family emergency which I understood. He promised that he will come and fix it the next day and he did. He was very cool when he came back and he changed the part. He made sure it was working and said to let him know if I had any problems. I've told friends that it's a very good idea to have an extra warranty in their houses. AHS will respond and send somebody right away. All you have to pay is $120. In general, I'm very happy with AHS and the service they provide.

I filed the claim online and I got everything from them through text and email. The contractor from C & P Plumbing did a great job. I showed him everything then he explained everything upfront. He told me that the hot water heater wasn't actually broken and it was the pilot light that kept going on and off. He said that it had to be reset, so he reset it and he showed me how to do it. Then, he replaced the part in the toilet and tightened up the sink. Everything's working now.

While they were able to fix what was wrong with it, now we have to actually repair and replace the toilet. I have a friend who’s buying a house and I have recommended AHS. As far as home warranties go, it’s pretty good. When we bought our house, it was specified to purchase an American Home Shield warranty but the realtor purchased a different brand. We have a condo that we purchased in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. I've looked at other warranty programs and American Home Shield was set up by my realtor and he recommended them. I've seen their name and I did a little background homework on them and they seemed to have a pretty good reputation. The first time around, I had a dishwasher that would not empty the water, so the guy came out and fixed it. The second one was for an air conditioning. It would not cool down so I suspected it had a leak. The guy came out and confirmed there was a couple of leaks in the coil. So he took it out, took it to the shop, repaired it and put it back. It was great for 75 bucks, but I paid almost $1,000 for the refrigerant recharge. It's only covered for $10 a pound under that warranty and it's the old R22 system. Probably, in three or five years, I would have to replace the entire thing.

The contractor, KC, was very professional and was on time. They contacted me like I had asked a couple of days ahead of time and gave me time to set up my daughter, who let him in, to take off some work. They were great so I have no complaints. American Home Shield has been very responsive. They lived up to the terms and contacted me when I first submitted my claim. I did both claims online and it was easy. Both times they said someone will contact me within 48 hours and someone did the next day.

My biggest thing with American Home Shield is that their contractors are oftentimes not good. Every now and then, I get lucky, like with this guy. He’s from the same service company I had before and last time, he was very rude but he was okay this time. The claim was for the original dryer from my house that’s 20 years old. It wouldn’t tumble and the contractor pulled out a clump that looked like a little piece of styrofoam. Additionally, the knob had been broken off for years so I can't use it because I have to take pliers and crank the little metal thing. It's not a big deal. You just have to open the door but I don't know if I’m on hot dry or cool dry because there's no dial. But he said AHS doesn’t cover that. There are also a lot of things that they don't cover. I think I have the middle contract and I bumped it up a while ago. But the ice machine on my brand new refrigerator is not working and it’s not covered either.

Contractors have also come out multiple times and fixed my dishwasher. They would say it’s this, that or the other thing but then it would break again. And my deductible has gone up every time. It used to be $45 or $50 and now it’s $75. The worst story ever is that my water heater broke and they replaced it but in two years, the second one went out. The other one had been there for 12 years and they’re supposed to last more than two years. The contractor came and told me that he had to have a license, which I would have to pay $75 for, and that he would charge me $75 to dispose of it. There were some other fees he tacked on as well.

First of all, I called the Contractors Board and they said nobody ever gets a license and I could come down and get one myself. The first guy didn’t do it so I had to take time off from work, go down and get a license myself for $25. Then I called Silver State Disposal which is my garbage company and they told me they would dispose of it for free. I had to argue with the contractor about that because they said they were obligated to take it off the premises. But I said they were not. They were totally just trying to rip me off. So you really have to be savvy and not be gullible.

I’ve been paying American Home Shield for 15 years faithfully and got subpar contractors the majority of the time. I think basically they put out a bid and get whoever the cheapest contractor is. So I’m not thrilled with American Home Shield but I'm afraid to start over with anyone because of the age of my home and I don’t know if there might be a grace period. What if my heating and air conditioning go out? But it’s okay. It’s better than not having the warranty. American Home Shield is not horrific and I have had some good stuff as well. When a contractor came out for my garage door, there was no issue and they gave me good service.

But the other thing is, when you have to speak with a person, you can hold for an hour. But now they have an automated system. The would ask what appliance you’re calling about and you’ll say like, “Gas dryer.” Then they ask if you want a phone call or a text message, then they give you a provider. And the good thing is if you don't want a particular provider because you’ve had bad service from them, you can request another before they come. The providers also normally do call within the 24 or 48-hour period that they’re allowed to call back and make an appointment. And you usually get an appointment within a reasonable time. That’s the only good thing about them.

I would recommend Home Shield. I think it's a good service to have. I submitted the claim for a sewage backup over the phone and American Home Shield got somebody out here as quickly as possible. The first person they sent couldn't identify what was wrong but the second person did and they got it taken care of in a matter of a few minutes.

I submitted the claim online and American Home Shield emailed me right away. They told me that somebody was coming out and I got it right away what company had been sent. However, the issue was really not electrical, and it was really stupid. All I had to do was tighten up the plate. It took the contractor a whole two minutes to do that and I didn’t know then, and from that, I paid $75. The plate that held the socket together was just loose, and there was nothing else wrong with it. It was a no-brainer but I didn’t want to take any chance. But the contractor that was here was great. He’s been out here before. He said I don’t have to keep taking that plug out of the wall. I have a lamp there and he said to just use the switch. He showed me how my switch was connected to that stuff and that info was very helpful to me.

I’ve had several claims made to American Home Shield, but the most recent one was with the washing machine. I call in and there’s an automated choice of saying what’s wrong and then they’ll give me the vendor or the vendor will call me. The last contractor sent by AHS was very reputable. When he came out to do the washer, he said he was going to try and do what he can. He said it could be just the washing machine that’s not doing it anymore, and it may be something we got to get replaced. I need somebody to come out and take a look at that again.

I’m still having problems with the washing machine, which is not really his fault. The machine doesn’t rinse out the clothes. There are four different cycles that we have, but the last spin and drain, it doesn’t want to take all the water out of the clothes so my clothes are wet. And I’ve got to run it twice in that last cycle. This has been part of the original problem. I’ve had two calls on it, and the technician came out and replaced the balancers. It helped with the clothes not getting so tangled up inside, but I’ve noticed that it still doesn’t want to drain completely. My washer is downstairs so I have to go down and reset it again. Then, go back and get my work done. Go down again to make sure it was drained, so it’s a nuisance.

A different vendor has been out twice to try and fix that. American Home Shield has sent out before him, and when I kept complaining, they sent a new contractor out. And he said again that the shock thing was bad so he was going to replace those. It took care of some of the problems, but I still have that other problem. AHS had some vendors who came out of the South Phoenix area, and they were horrible with our toilets and the refrigerator. Also, I had 14 calls on the hot water heater before we finally had a third vendor come out. He said that the hot water heater was shot and when they took it all apart, they found out it was shot. Then why it took that other company to send them out that many times that I was almost to the point of wanting to cancel American Home Shield.

I had a plumbing issue that AHS could not resolve. The contractor they sent didn’t take the time to look for the cleanout drain. And they said they couldn’t go on the roof. They didn’t want to look on the side of the house. They didn’t want to look under the house because it’s a crawlspace and they said they weren’t allowed to do that so call somebody else who could. It was horrible.

I can put it in on the internet and in my records to tell them not to send a specific plumber to my house because I had an awful time with them. But yet, they assigned that plumber to come again. And I tried to call them and I stayed on hold waiting for someone to answer for probably 45 minutes. The first time I sat on hold for that length of time, I got a guy who said I can cancel it but I can’t reassign it to another vendor. And he said “So if you want me to cancel it, I can cancel it. But you will have to call again and sit on hold for 45 minutes and wait on somebody.

I said, "Thank you very much” and hung up. So I ended up the next day calling them back, sitting on hold for 30 to 45 minutes again. I got a nice young lady who said “Certainly. I’ll just change it over.” So she redirected it and said “Yes, it’s in your records that the specific plumber is not supposed to be sent to your house and I’m sorry. We’ll fix it." If I go back to the time before when I put in a request, I sat on the phone for over an hour. I have had American Home Shield for nine years and this is the first year that it has been absolutely horrible.

I have American Home Shield on three houses. So it’s getting worse and worse. If it continues and doesn’t improve, I will take all three of my contracts and move them. The guy that was there has been in my house many, many times and he was really, really good. He told me, “I suggest that you go ahead and call Roto-Rooter and they’ll be out there immediately and get it cleaned out.” It was late in the afternoon already. He said that they’ll come out any time, day or night. So they came on out and unclogged it.

AHS called me the next day and said they were scheduling someone to come out again. And I said “There’s no need to. I’ve already got it fixed.” So I said “You know, you guys come in one of the three of my houses all of the time. Are you really going to charge me that $75 for the guy to walk in and say ‘Oh, I can’t do anything'?” And she said, “Yup” and hung up. They also need to do something about their hold times and their agents on the phone because the one that I talked to clearly didn’t know what the American Home Shield policy was as far as fixing it. They need to do something about their call center. They either have a totally understaffed call center or they don’t care.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for our dishwasher, the ice maker and our refrigerator due to them not working. Submitting a claim was very easy and convenient online. The contractor for the fridge was very quick to reach out to me and schedule a time to come. Then it took about three weeks for him to come back and fix it. It was a leak issue and we were not getting enough water flow. But he was prompt once he got the parts. I was very pleased and he explained what the next steps I needed to take so it was very clear and easy.

The fridge is still slow but that is something that is not covered by American Home Shield and we would have to pay for ourselves to fix as they said. We did a buyout option for the dishwasher and all I had to do was file the claim. And once I bought the new device, they sent me the check and everything was done within two weeks. I would recommend American Home Shield and I would tell my friends it is worth the money for older homes and it is easy to get in contact with them.

This first time I had used American Home Shield was because my washing machine was leaking water. The contractor that was sent out was amazing. He was a young fellow and he did an excellent job. He diagnosed the problem, put the washer up, put in a new part, and it worked fine.

American Home Shield has been good. The price keeps creeping up although we've used it. We've been on it for a long time now and had replaced both the refrigerator and the dishwasher with it, so it has been worth it. We filed a claim when the ice machine of the refrigerator was broken and it wasn't producing ice. Submitting the claim was a typical web form thing. But I wish the process was a little more granular and that I am able to say it's my ice maker than have it come back and tell me right away that it wasn't part of my contract.

The contractor that was sent by American Home Shield was very professional. He opened up the unit and looked around, poked at it, tried to get it adjusted, and said that it was jammed. He could unjam it but it would probably break it. The thermostat was broken anyway and there was nothing that he could do to fix it. It would cost only $305 to fix it. I went with him, he ordered the parts and it took about two weeks getting them and trying to get the ice machine fixed. We used ice enough that I didn't want to mess with what they were trying to do. I can't go back to cubes in trays. I've recommended American Home Shield to other people who were looking for a home warranty.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield online when the oven broke. AHS sent a great contractor. He ordered door hinges because the oven door wouldn’t stay closed. It took three weeks to order the part and when it came, he came in and replaced it. Everything is working perfectly now.
