The water heater blew out at my house and the first person that American Home Shield got out here reported a leak and wanted to replace the whole shower. And then, I asked the plumber that came in to replace the water heater to look at the plumbing issue I had in my shower. He said that I didn't need to replace the whole shower and that all I needed was to replace the little couplings. Because of that, American Home Shield did not cover and I ended up paying it out of my pocket. It should have probably been paid by American Home Shield and that is why I'm a little upset. Their representative can do whatever they can do. Basically, what I've learned is that every time I've called, they always have to refer it to be a fine line and there is nothing you can do. However, it's the service contractors that I'm not happy about. While they are knowledgeable, they always do the minimum so they can get more money.

The heat pump had a hole in it and when I submitted the claim online, I already had an account set up with American Home Shield. They were really quick to respond. They assigned a contractor as soon as I made the claim and he came out relatively quickly. The work's not completely done yet because there's been a whole process to fix that one wrong thing and then they found something else wrong. But the communication with the contractor has been great and they’re installing the rest of it on Saturday. The home warranty is a great expense and it’s definitely worth having the coverage. I’d tell others to invest in it.

The most inept company I think I have experienced!!! Where do I begin... No follow up on appliance failure after waiting weeks for a solution. You call the customer service line and the computers are down time and time again... What century are we in??? You go to live chat because you literally have to wait 30 min. I'm not exaggerating. 30 min on hold to get a live operator... and then chat shuts down while you are in line because it's time for them to close down for the night. There are never any managers on staff to solve problems. You will get an agent tell you that the manager will call you but it never happens.

Back in October of 2017 called in reference to ice maker not working and a leak underneath refrigerator. Contractor came out and notified me that it was an internal leak. It couldn't be repaired. American Home Shield refused that assessment and call for a second opinion. The second contractor came out and said there was a crack in the pan. Underneath the unit he said ice maker was repaired. The leak has continue and has damaged my wood floor and AHS refused to repair and also is charging me an additional service fee for the same repair. When the unit should have been replaced or repaired properly. After two more second opinions repairs still pending and AHS customer service refused to give me the Corporate offices phone number to address issues and said no one is available to address issue of damages and fees.

This warranty is a complete waste of money. I had a service call where all of the Freon has leaked out of my system. This company only covers $10 a pound (the freon cost $75 around). Do not use this company, I switched over after reading good reviews on their page, of course, they only post the good ones. Called my old company and they would have covered the total cost of Freon. THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF DO NOT GO WITH THEM... Shop around! It also took over a week to get the people to come out to fix it. Btw the weather is 60-70 here so it's not because they were busy!

And then, everything was fine with the contractor, although he couldn't really fix the problem. He said it was something that wasn't covered so it wasn't resolved. I have to pay. Nevertheless, get AHS' service as it can be helpful.

Since we have moved into our house a few years ago, every summer we have had to have our air conditioner fixed at least once, if not twice for a leak... and the air unit was so old, that it took the expensive type of freon (which AHS did not cover). Each time we had to get it fixed it cost us around $200 if not more. If the leak did not get fixed the first time, and we kept having the same issue at least 4 more times, why would they not just replace the air unit? Because they dont care about their customers, they only care about their money! We ended up having to buy a new air conditioner on our own. I called to cancel our AHS policy and it doesn't seem like they cared to lose us anyways.

We will not be recommending AHS to anyone. We have also had our refrigerator worked on MULTIPLE times, as well as our washing machine once. It seems that these places they have come out to fix their stuff dont know what they're doing I guess; it's probably just the cheapest places they hire; forget about quality I guess.

I was sold on this product as a convenient tool for homeowners to have especially when buying a home to have a worry free experience. I have attempted to use it twice, but they don't really cover much and the items they do cover has too many limitations. Just expect to be disappointed when you run into any issues and having to re-read your contract (not get an answer) contacting the company to only be told it's not covered. In the positive customer service is great, politely even though the only answer you get is NO.

I have had my service roughly a year. On 4/6/18 I called in explaining my dishwasher has an error code as well as my refrigerator is malfunctioning. On 4/10 they sent Alfa Repair, guy was in for all of 5 min and relayed he doesn't know how to repair the dishwasher and the refrigerator. He would submit a claim and be back. A week goes by and no call, I check the status and Alfa marked it as completed. I called AHS back. They set up another company for 4/17 between 7am-10am. I took a half day of work for the company to NO SHOW.

I called AHS. They said give them until noon which I did. Still no show. I called and after 70 min of back and forth and holds etc they said they would send another company. They said they couldn't be here for a WEEK. So they sent another company which was the same company as the 1st time. Today they finally sent another company, gentleman was on time and nice. Said he can repair the dishwasher and will call AHS for repair but his company cannot repair the fridge so he will let AHS know to transfer. Oh they transferred to the same company that came out the 1st time saying they can't repair it, I'm now 2 weeks and no repair on anything. JOKE.

I had no difficulties filing an online claim with American Home Shield for my stove. They contacted me the following day. The guy that came was super. He knew what the problem was as soon as I explained the issue. A capacitor had blown on the stove due to the design. When I did the clean-the-oven thing, it would blow. He had the needed part on hand and although he had to pull the stove out of the wall to get the part replaced, he was in and out in an hour. It was a great deal and I won’t hesitate to reach out to AHS if I have an issue again.

Back in the winter time, we had a plumbing issue that had something to do with our septic tank. Our toilets weren’t draining properly but the septic tank didn’t have to be pumped at that time. The problem was something that American Home Shield can deal with. They sent somebody right out. So, we had a really good experience. And then we had another issue with a tank with the water heater. The pilot went out and wouldn’t come back on and American Home Shield sent a plumber for that too. That got fixed and that was fine too.

It’s difficult to get American Home Shield on the phone when submitting a claim. They tell me to go online and do it and I can do it online or I can hold for a little while on the phone. And either way, I tell them what the problem is. The only issue that I have is I never know what company it is going to be. There might be a local company or someone a little farther out because they don’t always stay with American Home Shield.

The first time we called for our air conditioner, we had a local large company come right out the same day and it was fantastic. And then they came out again for our first plumbing issue. But the second time we had a plumbing issue, these people were no longer with them because then we got somebody from another town about 30 miles away. But we were happy with the last fellow. He did a good job, but he’s a small company. He's just himself and one more person. He was on a big job and we had to wait for him to get done, but it was still within the parameters that American Home Shield laid out. We understood that.

We're completely satisfied with the repairs and we’re very happy with American Home Shield. It seems like they get it. But there was another issue that maybe they could fix. We called in when we were having a plumbing issue and this was during an ice and freeze storm. And so, places around town, sometimes may not be open or people couldn’t get to work. The way American Home Shield notified the plumber that was to come out, was through an email. They don’t get them on the phone. But the girl that was in charge of handling the emails and passing them on didn’t make it to work that day, so when I called the plumber, they said they didn't get the message.

The same thing happened with the last plumber. I ended up calling him because he was not in his office all day long and he gets the messages at the end of the day. I wish American Home Shield had a back-up and instead of sending an e-mail, they’d send these people a text or call them. I get a little impatient, but I try not to. When I call American Home Shield and say that I need their help, they've got a job and eventually, I'd expect that I'm going to get a call within a few hours. And when I don’t, I would want to know if they received the call and sure enough, both times they had not. So, I wish American Home Shield would change their notification system. Otherwise, we’re good and I’d recommend them. We got them since we bought our house in September a year ago.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. I have put in two claims, one for the heater and the other one was for something else. I submitted them online via their user-friendly site and both claims were resolved. Though they could improve on the structure and also the size of the font found on their site. At 33, I'm relatively young and I can figure out my way around the site. But for elderly folks who are not as tech-savvy, bigger font and better structure in the way of words would be preferred. Let's say, on one page it would be like, "Do you need to file a claim? Click here." less stuff around it and very basic.

The contractor that came out to service our claim was fantastic and extremely professional. We had Nest and their service level was great. We found it wasn't an easy issue and it had to do with the electrical connection with the heater and the AC. Long story short, my parents were struggling because it was really cold and the contractor came out the same day or the next to fix it. It was really quick. We went to the electric systems of it, the technology system with all the gizmos. And then, even there, we were also advised about the filter, which I went out to Home Depot and had it changed. And it was great. They were awesome. The air conditioning has been perfect since the repair.

American Home Shield definitely picked the right contractor for the air conditioning. The business end we worked with was really helpful. I'd recommend American Home Shield and tell people that it's affordable and the contractor was great. An area for improvement though would be to have a lower rate. It is $75 for each visit and if they could cut that down to $70 or $65, it would even be a bigger home run. A lot of the contractors are paid $85 for the visit so, AHS customers are getting the benefit of about a 20% allocation off. But a greater discount would be even more satisfactory.

We had a problem with our refrigerator and we filed a claim to American Home Shield and they were unbelievable. Within five to ten minutes, there was somebody sitting outside our neighborhood. Once when I called, there was somebody here within one to two hours, which was great. The contractor is a local business and they did a great job. Once I started talking to the contractor, the guy just lit up. He was very nice, very confident, probably working in a job well beneath his capability. And he wasn’t complaining either. He was polite, smart and he knew what he was doing. He fixed the problem and he didn’t do a workaround. There were some people who came in and tried to fix the problem on the cheap. But his experience had told him that was not the way to go. He said, “I’m just going to replace your ice maker unit because if I don’t, it’ll probably never work quite right.” So he did it and it didn’t take long. He was fast, professional, and our ice maker is working. It’s the kind of service you expect but rarely get.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for my heating system that went down and the process was easy. They contacted a local vendor and the local vendor came out and gave it an estimate. They were awesome and very competent. Apparently, the estimate was higher than American Home Shield had wanted so AHS got a second opinion. By the time the original happened, that was very quick. And then from that moment, it seemed to take a fair amount of time to get a second opinion. The second vendor kept in touch with me a fair amount and they seemed competent. It was just more of a time frame. They said that they had many jobs before me that had been waiting so I can’t really hold American Home Shield accountable for that because they're intermediary. AHS ended up replacing the unit with the second vendor and had to order the unit which took two weeks.

The entire process took four weeks and I would have rather of them taking the first bid, but I'm sure they have processes that required a second opinion. The unfortunate thing was, the residence is in a rural area so a second, third, fourth opinions are hard to find. This is not my primary residence so, if it was my primary residence, it would have been a different story. I understand that it was in the middle of the dead of winter and it did not allow me to use it during the time period. I had no heat at all so I was worried at that time for the time frame that it was taking. But I had a positive experience overall. I had a claim two years prior for the same thing and at that point in time, they had fixed the unit. Both my experiences have been pretty good with American Home Shield. They were pretty responsive. I've told a bunch of people that I've been very happy with them.

It seemed really quick. The person who came out was very knowledgeable, inspected the unit and walked through the home that I have two air conditioners. He made sure that everything was operational and confirmed for me that there was no problem. That the problem preexisted before I moved in. I now am very comfortable that I don't have an issue behind my wall.

He said that it looked like there was evidence that a brand-new unit had been placed in before I moved in. It has new standards and there's a drip pan underneath it, and there was no staining underneath the new one. He said the stains on the wall were probably old and maybe missed during inspection. I ended up calling back American Home Shield and said I never heard from All Keys. They followed up on it and then the contractor came. When they came, I was not there so somebody else let them in. The contractor fixed it and called me to say it was repaired. Everything is fine now.

Then I got disconnected and when I called back, I spoke with a guy who was much nicer. It was a couple of days before AHS was able to get the contractor out but Chris was a great electrician and he fixed my outlets and I haven’t had any problems. He was very professional and he finished the job in a fast manner. He was there by 9:00 and he was out of there by 9:40. I talked to people about American Home Shield and I told them I have no complaints and everything’s nice.

Our heater went out in mid December after two different technicians - they finally said it needed to be replaced. That took a solid month. Now it's the Middle of April and we still don't have a working system. No calls, no one updates you, you call and you will be on HOLD for at minimum of 30 minutes. When you do get someone it's the runaround. This is EXPEDITED service! This is the second issue I had with this group. Back in September, I had to get the regional manager on the phone and I only tracked her down through our Real Estate Agent.

Now I am so fed up with the lack of service or commitment to doing anything remotely professional, I am writing this review so EVERYONE can read and understand what they are NOT getting when they use this organization. If I could give negative Stars I would be! UNHAPPY does not even come close. I could run something out of my basement with tin cans and string and you would get better service! It's so sad I called them, and I have been on hold, created this account, and wrote this before anyone even picked up the phone call.

My microwave's door wouldn't open. My husband called American Home Shield and they were very prompt in getting someone out to look at the trouble. The contractors called us with the appointment the day after my husband called them and they came out in less than a week. Still, they were prompt compared to some people who take forever and don't get in touch. Furthermore, the contractors were very good about coming out, notifying us and keeping us informed about what was going on. The tech was very friendly, very outgoing and told us what the problem was. He said that they did not have the part inside and they would have to order it. He and one other fellow, each came out one time and both times the part that we got was broken. The techs didn't discover it until after they got it opened to put in the replacement.

Finally, the last guy that came out got ready to leave and I said, "You know, instead of you wasting your time making a trip, you probably should make sure that the one you're going to put in is not broken." It took about 10 days to get the part and they seemed to be able to get the part readily. It’s just that it was broken. Then when the other guy came out, he said they got five broken parts before they finally got one that wasn't broken. Nevertheless, the microwave's door has been excellent since the repair.

There was a problem with the turn knob of our dryer. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was really easy. All I did was call, give them my customer number, let them know which appliance was broken and that it's a General Electric, then they gave me a call in 24 to 48 hours to set up an appointment. The tech had to take a part at the top of the dryer to replace a piece underneath in order for it to turn on because for a while, it wasn't turning on by itself.

I have AHS for nine months now and this was the second claim I had with them. So far, the contractors they sent out have been excellent. The guy for the dryer waited for us to show up a few minutes later because we got stuck in traffic and he was real nice and super friendly. It was a different guy that came out for my dish washer but he was super friendly also. The first time we used American Home Shield, we fought with them because we paid $75 and they kept billing us saying we never paid them. But the contractor had been paid and we had receipts for everything. Other than that, everything has been good.

The tech figured out the problem with the washing machine and so he took care of that for us. Since the repair, everything has been performing good. He was very nice and very professional. He then looked into refrigerator and it would have taken a new door. And the door was $700 and they were gonna do that, but they were back ordered. So, they said that if we would settle for $540 on a new refrigerator, they would do that. So, we went ahead and bought a new refrigerator, and then showed them our proof of purchase, and we had that delivered. And then, they sent us a check for $540. Overall, American Home Shield has been great.

I’m leaving town in two weeks and I will not be back to my home in Tucson until the fall. The contractor that was sent out by American Home Shield was Super Drain Rooter & Plumbers and there were two different people that came out here. Apparently, when he first came, I thought that he put new guts in the toilet, but he did not. Then the second time around, he did that so I’m praying that everything is okay. The bottom line is that all these people try to get away with as little they can do and still fix it. They kind of do it half-assed, to begin with, and then hopefully, that works and nobody complains. But I’m not used to half-assed and it just wasn’t working. Referring to the toilet, that seemingly is working well now but who knows what may happen?

We’ve had American Home Shield for years in our other home but when I bought this place, the warranty that came with the purchase was the Old Republic. I had a leak in my sink and I don’t know how many times they came out and I had to replace the faucet and the garbage disposer and this and that. My experience when submitting a claim with American Home Shield is very good and my interaction with the reps has been good too. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

I got American Home Shield's number off the website and called in the claim. I’m still not sure what my account number is but they were able to recognize me by phone number and my address. The claims process went pretty smooth. The contractor came out and tested the unit and found the compressor was out. It was under warranty so they were able to replace it and I just had to pay for the Freon that they put in it. All in all, that was a good experience and they knocked it up pretty quick.

It was the same thing with the plumbing issue. We had a shower that wasn’t getting any hot water to it when we first moved in the same week. The contractor was able to go up to the hardware store, and find a plastic part for the knob, come back, and install it. That was also a very pleasant experience. The contractors were professional and got it done pretty quick as well.

My oven stopped working. I could turn it on, but it would go off. When I called AHS to file my claim, it took a little while for them to send someone out. They said that if anything would go wrong and I would call, they would send out a technician the next day. But it took five weeks before somebody came. Plus, I had to keep calling them and see what was going on.

When the guy from B & M Appliance Service came out, I told him what was going on and he put a thermostat in. Then after he left and I tried to cook dinner, the oven was doing the same thing. So they had to order panels which took about two more weeks. But they didn't even call me and let me know that they ordered the panels. I had to call them myself to see whether they were gonna send somebody back out and that's when they told me about the panels. They said that they initially couldn't find the panels but thought they could find them earlier so they didn't let me know about it. But they finally found one and their rep told me that the part would be in about five days, so I gave them five days in order for them to contact me and let me know when the technician was coming out.

I then called them back and they told me that he would be out the next day. But the technician told me that he was backed up that day and asked if he could make it the next day. I said yes so, he came the next day and now, everything has been straightened out and working okay. All in all, I would recommend AHS. However, they should touch base with the customer and let them know what's going on. If they can't come out that day, they should call and let me know. They have my phone number where they can text me. They should also let me know if they can't find the part and it's gonna take a while, so I know what's going on and I wouldn't be all day trying to wait on them at home.

The fridge and the gas cooker weren't working. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield over the phone and everything went smoothly as usual. The rep listened and received each issue separately. Everyone did as well as they could, but not all contractors communicate the same way. I really like the person who came for the fridge. He seemed to communicate well. He sent a text message and called when he was on his way. Moreover, I felt he was really professional and asked a lot of questions about how the problem started. He was prepared and proactive. He had the tools for things that easily get exposed ready in the van. And he fixed the fridge before he left. I definitely loved the sweet experience with him and I would prefer if they can call that person in when I have any fridge or freezer problem.

However, with the stove, I called and left messages but it took more than a week before I was able to get in touch with the person who came to fix it. I'm still waiting for the parts of the stovetop to be ordered, so the tech hasn't been back yet. I assumed that when it's been ordered then he would let me know and schedule for a time to come back and fix it. An American Home Shield warranty is a good thing to have because the homeowner's insurance will not fix any of these things. One would have to fix it out of pocket. Unless they have $1,000,000 somewhere, it pays to proactively pay to have things repaired.

I got on the phone with American Home Shield and they said they’d do up to $1,500 for the cord. Then they called Mountainview Energy which has an answering machine. American Home Shield said they left a message and that as soon as they hear back about how much is overdue, they will let me know. Also, when I talked to American Home Shield, they said that if something is broken in my house and they can’t fix it, they would replace it. So I'm wondering how much they do to replace on a heat pump. But I’m also gonna call the company again and see how much the cord would cost to fix the heater. My French door bottom freezer refrigerator wouldn't cool anymore. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim. The techs from Lawton Handyman came out on short order and checked the unit out, determined what was wrong and ordered the parts. The parts came in but apparently, there was a label inside the refrigerator and when my niece was over here, she cleaned it, folded it off and threw it away. The only way we can get the codes is to go through Maytag themselves and Maytag can’t get the codes that Lawton Handyman needs to repair the refrigerator.

I spoke to Lawton Handyman and they said because the code was missing there, it couldn’t be done. The technician had to program a board. They also said it’s a dead issue and American Home Shield won’t do anything. Nevertheless, for the most part, the people who I dealt with from AHS has been good. The heat was not working and I submitted a claim for that with American Home Shield by phone and had a good interaction with the rep. It took two days for a tech to come here and he was great and explained. They’re here replacing the unit right now. We had a misunderstanding because I was dealing directly with the contractor and he told me about the upgrade. I told him that I was interested in that. But somehow, nobody called me back and I ended up getting a letter from the buyout department. I called that number and told them that I was interested in the upgrade. However, I was very confused and frustrated and so I had to call back the contractor again and then he told me that I have to call back a different number. They should have sent me an email about the upgrade and I was supposed to either accept that or go ahead.

The technician told me that my email address was wrong and thus, I wasn’t getting all the information. So it took over a week from the time the technician first came in and then finally getting it replaced. Fortunately, it wasn’t freezing and I had to use a space heater throughout that time in between. So, that was a little frustrating and I’m a little disappointed that only the compressor was covered under my warranty. I have to pay an extra $4,000 to get everything else replaced. I’m paying all this money and the furnace doesn’t cover the HVAC.

My water heater stopped working and it was leaking water pretty badly in the basement area. It was an older water heater so there was no shut-off valve and I made every effort to get American Home Shield to expedite the order, but it still took a full week where I had running water in the basement. I had to have my 16-year-old son use the HVAC to pump the water out every morning, afternoon, and evening. It was also cold 'cause this was back in March, so it was a choice of either a cold shower or warming up water in buckets which is what we ended up doing.

We spoke to a representative several times and made calls daily because first we would speak with the representative, then we would try to find out if they can send over someone who has a water heater in stock. And that was information they didn’t really have. I had to go back and forth and call the people myself to see what they had in stock and how long it would take. Even the process I was told was not quite right because I was told that when they come in, once they see what the problem is, they put in the order that day and they can approve it the next day. However, that's not what happened at all. They came in that day, put in the claim, and it wasn’t until two days later that American Home Shield said yes.

There was pointing of fingers wherein American Home Shield would tell me that the vendor is the one who had got to move it quickly, and then the vendor would tell me that American Home Shield had got to approve every item before they could go ahead and place an order. I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. Everyone basically said it was the other guy. So, it was mornings on the phone with the vendor and afternoons on the phone with American Home Shield. It was terrible with respect to the response time and I'm definitely concerned because I'm thinking about getting a rental property and thought about getting American Home Shield, but if I've got tenants, there's no way I could explain to them that it's going to take a full week if something like that happened.

The technician was great, though. As soon as he saw the water, he said it was a problem and that he was going to put it in for expediting. He attempted to see what he could do to shut it off but he couldn't because it was an older water heater and we didn’t have a valve, but he made an effort to at least stem the problem. I was happy that he saw it was an issue and he definitely moved quickly on his end to submit whatever he had to submit. The water heater was completely caput, so we got a new one that's working well and everything is fine.

I have no issue with the work that was done at all and I wouldn't have cared if it was a dishwasher or something like that, but I was surprised that they didn’t have any kind of expedited process for something that's as serious as a major appliance. They just didn’t understand the urgency. I also ended up having to come out of pocket, $640 on top of the $133. I guess it's the fine print. In the items, it's like I had no choice but to upgrade because of regulations but my warranty apparently doesn’t cover that, so I had to pay that. And I would think if I had to pay that, that $133 would be part of it but it was not. So ultimately, I ended up putting out the $133 plus the $640 and a week without hot water.

And added a reason of possibly due to insect infestation. AHS refused repair pointing to a fine print in contract for not under the coverage. The service is bad to extent, that visiting mechanic did not care to offer a price quote for replacement or AHS to order a 2nd review. AHS charged its $100 for visiting mechanic per the contract. AHS purchase phone call was responsed very quickly, but after the incident I had to wait for 20-35 mins on hold to cancel this warranty contract with the AHS cancellation dept.

So this guy says I am not being honest with him and I caused more damage to my stove and I damaged my own floor and they aren’t going to cover it but to please have a nice night after arguing with me for 15 min! Don’t waste your money on a warranty with these people. Put it in a bank account. They also gave me the number in case I needed to contact whoever they were giving the job to. Within 24 hours, a lady called me from the plumbing place, The Little Big Plumbers. I had them contact my tenants and then they set an appointment. The tenant told me that the contractor was good. They changed what was broken and put in a new one. There was a little leak there that I wasn’t aware of and they fixed that. The tenant was very happy.

When I rent out my house, I always have American Home Shield so if there are any problems, I would be able to fix it. I’ve had to use them mostly for plumbing and so far, it has all been good. I’m very happy with them and that’s why I keep renewing every year. It’s better than having to go out on my own and try to find someone who can come in and fix things.

They then called me to set up an appointment. It took a week for them to get out though. It was different from the past when I had my icemaker looked at and they came out pretty quickly. But the service went very well. The tech was very polite. He was very knowledgeable because of what I told him. I had clicked the switch on the breaker box and turned it back on, then I still tried to turn it on but it still wouldn’t come on. The tech said sometimes it triggers it to reset. When I had done it, it didn’t do anything but when he came out, he pressed the button and the washing machine came on and started working. AHS is doing a great job and they’ve been professional. By the time I called Edelen’s right after I got off the phone, they said that the AHS rep had already notified them. It was very prompt.

When the guy came out here, he found that the bracket came loose with a nice old spring across that was in a very dangerous position. He said that I was really lucky because that was a major problem and that was what caused the door not to lift properly. He also found out that the motherboard wasn’t working right and that was causing the intermittent operation of the door. The repair guy and the company were wonderful. When he came, he tightened it back on so it could start working. I like American Home Shield's program and I've already been recommending them to my friends who might want to get it.

I requested service for my gas top stove and American Home Shield assigned a contractor who was outstanding and he was here the next day and repaired what was needed. He just needed to tell me what the deal was. He was very helpful and answered any question I had and he was in and out in about 20 minutes.

With the other claim on the icemaker on the refrigerator it took the contractor about two weeks or so before they got here but that may be normal with icemakers. I didn’t call it urgent. But that guy was very knowledgeable and had the parts with him so he was able to fix it. But I wish American Home Shield covered more things in the house, including the big items like the fireplace. American Home Shield didn’t cover our fireplace, which surprised me and I even had no way to type it in. But other than that I've had American Home Shield for about six months and so far I'm satisfied.

And so we had to have American Home Shield call and schedule for a plumber to come out for that. Also, there were several electrical outlets that were not working, so we had to call American Home Shield and schedule for an electrician to come out and take care of those as well. Our interactions with those two contractors that were sent out were both fine and very easy. My wife called and scheduled with somebody and the contractors came out on the same day. And on that day, it was raining really hard, but each of them was able to do their job independently. I expected that everything was going to be fixed and it’s in good condition now.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is simple and I usually do it online. The site is user-friendly and then I receive a call from the contractors on the same day. But if there's an issue that keeps recurring and they're not fixing the problem, I call and talk to somebody because I can be a little bit more descriptive. And they would handle it. The reps are professional and my interactions with them have been fine.

American Home Shield had my air conditioner serviced and the contractor they sent was really friendly and quick. He identified the issue, fixed it and was gone in about 45 minutes. I keep having issues with the AC and I've had it serviced about three times in about a year and a half. So, if I call them out again, I'd tell them that we would need to do a little bit more research because the issue keeps happening.

Anytime I had asked American Home Shield to sent someone out, it's been fairly easy and usually quick. With air conditioning in the Texas summers, we need someone to come out rapidly. Usually, within a day or so, someone comes and adjusts the issues. Moreover, I like how they have something where one can look up their coverages, like on a second menu. I have my pool equipment, all my electrical, plumbing, and appliances on there. Having AHS is not that expensive for how much money one can save if something goes wrong. American Home Shield is a great service.

He looked at the pool sweep and fixed it right there on the spot. He was here for about half an hour. One time though, our heater wasn’t working and I called and made an appointment to have a technician come out which is great. Then the day before the technician got here, it started working again, but it was making a really weird noise. So I didn’t cancel because I could tell something was going to break because of the noise that it's making. The technician got here and he said, “Well, it's blowing air. If it's working, there's nothing I can do.” However, I still had to pay the $75 fee. At least do something for $75. I was very disappointed this time.

We submit our claims with American Home Shield by phone. We wanna speak to someone so that they’d understand what our problem is. We had our recent claim for our water heater, and the contractor that AHS sent was horrible. The first time they came out, they sent a young boy out here. And in order to access the flame guard and take it off to get to wherever the thermostat, he beat our pan all up. The heater sits down on a pan, so if it was to overflow the pan will catch it. It was a brand new pan and he sat here with a hammer and beat it down to get to it, instead of using the proper tools, and then left it that way.

They sent the same people out again this latest time. The first person that they sent out for this particular incident that we’re having right now, came out and as soon as he got here, he realized it was a propane water heater and they don’t work on propane. And we made it clear to AHS that we have a propane water heater. They sent out two people that do not do propane water heaters. However, the company that gave us the quote this time don’t do propane water heaters either but they said they will do this one.

We're in a dispute because the water heater needs to be changed. And the company that they sent out here wanna charge us almost $500 out of our pocket to replace the water heater. They were putting it down on their paperwork that things have to be modified, and because of it, AHS won’t cover the modifications. And there are three of flex tubes that they’re talking about changing. So, in essence, AHS is supposed to be paying to replace the water heater and have it installed, but we’re paying for the installation because of what the companies are saying.

And I’m not the only one with this problem. I’ve done a lot of research on it and this seems to be very common with AHS and their contractors, and we’re not happy about that. I shouldn’t have to pay to have it installed. And now AHS has agreed to do a buyout for $500 which is fine, but for someone to come in here and to change out this water heater and do the installation with no modifications at all is a total of $950, which was the lowest that we found. The average is about $1,150. So regardless, even if they didn’t have to do any modifications at all AHS is paying nowhere near what it really cost to repair or replace a water heater and have it installed. We’re having a drawback cost and I’m not happy about that at all. I pay for a warranty, and it says they will take care of me and they’re not doing that.

Our experience was horrible and I will not renew with them. If I have to spend $500 out of my own pocket, my husband can go down and buy the water heater and install it himself. I made a comment on their Facebook page and they said, “We’re very sorry. Send us your information and we will contact you and discuss this problem.” And so I did that and the only response I got back was, “Thank you for letting us know your contract information.” So, I already know what they’re gonna do. They're gonna drop me and not renew me but I don’t plan on renewing anyway. Instead of fixing the issue, they’re just trying to find out who I am and where my contract information so that they could not renew. I dropped them last year and they called me back, and practically begged us to use them, and so, I did. I gave them another chance and here we are. I was very dissatisfied, and I would not recommend to a friend at all.

Never once have they called us, we have to initiate all contact. We were told to wait 24-48 hours for an email about our options, then it'll take another 5-14 days for any type of action to be taken.

In the meantime, we are spending unnecessary money to go to a laundromat. I called customer service, which was USELESS, spent over an hour on the phone to which I was hung up on 3 times and transferred more times than I can count, only to get someone on the line who said they couldn't help, transferring me AGAIN, to which I was then hung up on AGAIN. I have never been treated this way by a company. When I asked what they planned to do to compensate for their terrible service and to keep us as a customer, they said NOTHING. The pump stopped pumping on our dishwasher. We called American Home Shield and it took a couple of days before we finally got something going. We've been with them for nine years now and we’ve had some problems with one of the companies that they use. We asked them not to send that particular company out and we wanted another company to come out that we've had a good experience with. But AHS said that they couldn’t change the contractor who was coming out. So, we got stuck with the company that we had a terrible experience with.

When their guy came out, he said the problem was the pump and the motor, and that he was going to order new ones. It took another week and a half for the new items to come in, then he came back out. But they only sent him the motor so that was what he put in when he arrived. After, the door of the dishwasher wouldn’t latch because when he had it on the ground while he was putting in the motor, he banged it. Then, when he went to put it back in, he used his knew to force it in. This is all stainless steel and a very nice piece of equipment. And now the thing wouldn’t turn on right because the door wouldn't latch. So, we had to order the parts for the latch and we waited another week and a half for that. When the tech came back, he got the latch in but the machine still won't operate. It’s not recognizing everything right and the sensors are all messed up in the door.

So we were pissed, we called American Home Shield, and they sent out another contractor for a second opinion. A guy came out, stood there, looked at the dishwasher, and said that he had no idea what the first guy did and it was going to take him five trips out here to figure it out. So he told me that they’d just order a new machine. He didn’t do anything, never even picked the machine out, or opened the door. Our dishwasher is a $1500 machine and American Home Shield told me that they were going to give me $750 for a new one. I told them to get the other company that started this nightmare back out here and get them to fix it. When I called that company, the owner told me that they were out of it and that once AHS brought in a second opinion, they had no liability on it anymore.

When I told American Home Shield about it, they said that that’s the way it works. I would have never had a second opinion if somebody told me that. I would’ve had them come out 10 times and replace every single part in that thing until it worked right. It was their responsibility. So now I'm stuck with $754. AHS wants to replace my high-end Kenmore Pro with a GE and they haven't even sent me the specs that I asked for of the machine that they want to replace mine with. I’m sure the replacement is nowhere near what the quality of what I had was. I called AHS two times about this issue and asked for a manager to call me but I never got a callback. And every time I asked for a supervisor, they said they were busy. They even said, “What's a supervisor going to tell you any different than I told you?” It has been over a week now and I’m still waiting for a call. It's ridiculous.

The heating source on my heater wasn't igniting, so I ended up putting in a trouble ticket for it and letting AHS know that my heating wasn't working. They responded right away and I had someone come and take a look at the heating system the next day. I also asked the technician to call me when he would be 45 minutes out since I work about 10 minutes away from where I live. And he did call me, so I was able to get a full day at work and didn’t have to sit at the house waiting for somebody to come. Then, he happened to have a part right in his truck and fixed the heater within 15 minutes. Everything has been fine since then. Also, when the warranty ran out, someone called me and got me all set up within 15 minutes. American Home Shield has good service and they outsource to good respectable companies. It is definitely worth the price and I would recommend them.

When you have a dryer down you need it right then and there but they were fair enough. Moreover, the interaction with the tech was pleasant. He came right in, did the job and came out quickly. The dryer is now working well. We always recommend AHS and have given their phone number to some people.

There was an electric fire alert on the hot water tank and then there was a timer that also caught on fire. Someone from Cook’s Craftsmen came out and put in a new switch. He was really helpful and he did a fantastic job. I also had Plumb Genius come out and I was not impressed at all. It took a week for everything to actually take place. Then both of my hot water tanks went because the breaker kept on popping. An electrician came out and found that whenever Plumb Genius was installing the new hot water tank, they were putting in screws right into one of the wires. That was two months ago and we had no idea. And the electrician said that could have caused a huge fire. They could have burnt down my house.

I even had Plumb Genius out two days ago and they could not find the issue. Then I contacted customer service and I talked to Kristal who was extremely rude. I was trying to make sure that the electrician and the plumber came out at the same time and get it resolved. But she was real short and rude. I would not recommend them to anyone. On the other hand, American Home Shield was wanting to charge me another service fee to check the other hot water tank. It was not a preexisting issue but it was something that was going on. I didn’t think that was really fair but that’s the only one that I was disappointed on. Otherwise, everybody has been really pleasant whenever I’ve called.

I have five properties with American Home Shield and there have been multiple issues from the heater to the plumbing to the fixtures. The more recent one was the heater. It's convenient to have the same company for all of the properties and to have someone that you can have a long time relationship with. So, I've been with them for more than 10 years. We use multiple ways to submit a claim. Sometimes, the tenant calls, sometimes I do it online and sometimes, I call. The customer service for American Home Shield itself especially when calling, is very difficult. It's very challenging and the follow up of the people that you speak to is not always good. Ironically, the other day, I got a good person, did the follow through and called me back. But that should be all the time, not some of the time.

I have literally made my way through the administrative offices of American Home Shield before. It is the way that I got the issue resolved with Carl's Plumbing because I have the documentation to show and even a more recent plumber that I had an issue with was completely dishonest. When you have contractors who don’t want to do the work and as a result, are dishonest, that should make AHS do business with them differently and that didn’t happen. AHS continues to do business with them and allows them to take advantage of their customers as well as mistreat them. Even though I went to the administrative offices on Carl's Plumbing and that was some years ago. On the more recent plumber, a second opinion came out and things got rectified because the second opinion didn’t agree with the first one. But the company and the treatment, they didn’t do anything about it.

The company that did the work around my central air unit was completely unacceptable. It took June to December for me to get my central air unit fixed. And the first company they sent out said they didn’t do the work. Then when the company that started to do the work did the work weren’t doing it right. And so, I had to call in experts to prove that they weren’t doing it right. So then, another company came out and I was fine with that company but they've had a staff change so they couldn't do the work. The price of the company that did the work was two or three times higher. Then the company that was just before them, and American Home Shield told me they couldn't do anything about it, their price was the way it was even though it was jacked up because that company was smaller so they don’t get their supplies and keep as the other company.

So I told them to give me a larger company. And in the end, I pay this maintenance insurance which by no means am I expecting that they're going to be jacking stuff up so that I'm paying thousands of dollars. And then lastly on the same thing, the company that came out to do the work had to put in a whole new system. They put electrical tape on the outside to hold the stuff together. I live in Wisconsin and that's not going to survive. So, when it doesn’t survive, I'm going to end up having to pay somebody to do it right. American Home Shield won't address it. They said it’s cosmetic but it’s not. It has to be protected from the weather and the fact that they're not protecting it from the weather is not funny. It’s just one thing after another and I'm just like, "Oh my goodness."

Those three situations have been so horrific that it overshadows all the good. My son has asthma and we have to have central air. Without central air, I had to send my son away because he couldn't live in his own house and they did not accommodate us in any way. I shared my feedback on their website, they responded and then I still didn’t get an adequate response.

So, I had one representative who ultimately said he’s going to be the one who's gonna deal with this with me all the way through the end. That's what they told me and so when that happened, that made it a little better and I appreciated that when that happened. But she told me that I’m going to have to accept the contractor and their price and I said that should not be okay. Their price could be a thousand dollars more than somebody else's price which happens to be the exact price difference that I paid to get the other one. The good part is that he did at least agree to fix the ceiling even though at first, other people were saying they weren’t going to do that.

If I had time and clarity on another option, I would leave yesterday. I tell people multiple times a year that they should get maintenance insurance and people don’t often know about it. So, just for clarity, I tell people about it all the time. I refer people to American Home Shield on multiple occasions and I get nothing for that and I've referred multiple people to them and I've said, "Calling in is a headache and service is not always good but it's a good thing to have." I wish for them to do well and address the issue that exists because overall, I really appreciate having the service.

I filed a claim online when my oven was inconsistently hot and cold and it wasn't baking correctly. The submission didn’t seem to work all that well as there was some disconnect between my claim and whoever received it on the other end, and there was a lot of delay. It took four days before I heard from anybody and when they called me, they said that they just saw that I made a claim. That could go a lot smoother.

But other than that, the person they sent in was great. The contractor did a good job at getting with me and setting up the dates and I'd seen the him before because he worked on my washing machine in my other house through another kind of warranty. The oven is working fine now. The only problem is now the light's not working in the refrigerator and it'd be another 80 bucks to get him to come. I don’t want to spend 80 bucks to get the light in the freezer fixed and it'd be nice if there was just no co-pay.

When my HVAC was making some sort of a loud noise, I went online and put in a claim with American Home Shield. They sent out a company representative who looked at the problem and found out what it was. A part needed to be replaced, but it was covered under my AHS warranty. The heat and air company fixed it that day, and it's been good. It was a quick response, service was immediate and I was happy with the results.

I've been with AHS for 20 years, and I've filed my claims mostly online. Occasionally if there were multiple items, I do it by phone because their online system didn't seem to do well with multiple items. I prefer not to use their phone service. It takes too long to speak to representatives on the phone. Other than that, each time I've spoken with a representative, I've had my problem taken care of. Also, over the years that I've been with AHS, 90% of the technicians have been good. Sometimes AHS sends out the same people over and over again, and I find that they are not always accurate. I had a plumbing problem where I had some kind of smell in our basement, and I couldn't figure out what it was. I gave them the information about what had been changed with the plumbing in that area and where I thought the problem was.

At first, I called the plumber myself and they looked at it and said I gotta have to do a smoke test which was gonna cost $2,000. Then I called AHS to have them send someone out. Lo and behold, they sent out the same company but a different person. And when the person came in, I told him the situation because they have been here before, we went back, looked at it, and went over the same thing. He didn't even pull it out but said I was gonna need a smoke test. I called AHS and they couldn't seem to get it resolved. And I had already paid them a hundred dollars. So I called out another plumber. He came out, took the wood in the wall where I thought the plumbing problem was and looked right at what it was. He charged me $75 and fixed the problem.

I have multiple rental properties and I put my American Home Shield on them. Having some transaction that I can get someone out and analyze a problem has been one of the benefits, but the downside is that some of their vendors are on the program but I don't think they like their contract with AHS. I don't always feel good about the AHS vendors all the time. Still, I would suggest American Home Shield to my friends but I would tell them before they choose it, they should look at more than one company and compare them.

After a positive interaction with American Home Shield, Anita increased their star rating.

    Original Review: April 16, 2018

We are now on day 28 of not having a working refrigerator in our home. American Home Shield did send out a repair technician. He has been at our home five times and replaced everything on the refrigerator that he thought could possibly be defective other than the compressor. The temperature keeps fluctuating in the refrigerator which first causes items to get too warm, and then fluctuates to the other degree of freezing items in the refrigerator. The repair technician stated that he can’t figure out what’s wrong with the refrigerator so it must not be broken. He states that he cannot duplicate the problem so there must not be a problem. American Home Shield stated that they cannot replace the refrigerator until the repair technician declares that it cannot be fixed.

So apparently since our repairman isn’t capable enough to figure out how to fix it American Home Shield feels they have the right to refuse to replace the refrigerator. After each visit by the technician we have trusted that he did repair the refrigerator as he stated and replaced the food in it and each time we’ve ended up having to throw food out either because the refrigerator was too warm and we were afraid of getting food poisoning or the produce was frozen solid and therefore had to be discarded. We have cataloged our refrigerator temperatures and have pictures of ruined food and pictures of frozen water in our refrigerator unit.

American Home Shield does not care about any of this. They’re now telling us that we have to wait for them to find another technician willing to come out and check it. When looking for a home warranty company I would definitely recommend checking to see how many times the repair technician can try to fix the unit before it is replaced. There are other home warranty companies that state that if the technician has attempted to repair a unit twice and cannot fix the problem, the unit is replaced. This is not so with American Home Shield. I definitely would not be looking at American Home Shield as my warranty company again. Apparently five tries by the technician wasn’t enough so they’re going to continue to drag this out even further. Absolutely ridiculous! I hope this review helps other consumers aware of the games that American Home Shield plays so they don’t have to go through the same problems that we have the last month.

On March 06, 2018, I contacted American Home Shield and informed them that my refrigerator was not working properly. American Home Shield sent out a technician on 03/08/18 from Active Appliances. The technician inspected the refrigerator and stated that all it needed was a reset. The technician performed a reset and stated that it will start working in 24 hours.

After 24hrs, the refrigerator was not working so I called American Home Shield 03/09/18 and told them that it was still not working. American Home Shield told me that they were unable to do anything because they had not received the technician diagnostics. I continued calling multiple times throughout the next couple of days. On 03/12/17 I called and requested to speak to a supervisor. They told me that they did not have supervisors available but offered me to speak to a customer service professional, who had the same authority as a supervisor. After a brief hold, they told me that they did not have any available but told me that one would get back to me within 48 hrs (the customer service representative did not call me back until two weeks late and did not leave a return callback phone number).

On 03/13/18 I called American Home Shield again and since the technician had still not submitted the diagnostics, they agreed to send out another technician. On 03/14/18, a technician from All Valley Appliances arrived and diagnosed the refrigerator. The technician stated that the problem was beyond what he was able to do and stated that he would submit his diagnostics to American Home Shield. In an effort to save money and speed up the process, I called American Home Shield and informed them of the status.

On 03/16/18, American Home Shield sent out a technician from Shapiro Appliances Service. The technician diagnosed the refrigerator and stated that he needed to replace a part. However, he stated that it will take 7-10 days for the part to arrive because he did not have it. On 03/23/18, I called Shapiro Appliances Service to get an update. They told me that the part would come by 03/28/18 and that they would contact me to install it right away. On 03/29/18 I called Shapiro Appliances Service again because they had not contacted me. They told me that the part was taking long to arrive because their supplier did not have it in stock. However, he said that it should arrive by 04/04/18.

On 04/05/18, I called Shapiro Appliances Service again and the owner told me that part will arrive later on the day or by the following day. He proceeded to schedule an appointment for 04/09/18. However, I requested for the part to be install on 04/06/18 because we had been waiting for the part for three weeks. The owner stated that he was not able to do that. I called American Home Shield and spoke with Michelle. I asked Michelle if they can please speed up the installation because we've been without a fridge for a almost a month. Michelle contacted the owner and told me that she will track my work order and get back to me to see if it was possible to get the refrigerator fixed on 04/06/18. Michelle stated that she would track it and call me back with whatever the outcome. Michele also offered a refund on a small refrigerator I had purchased. However, my brother lost the receipt. Note that Michelle never called me back.

On 04/09/18, the technician from Shapiro Appliances Service came to fix the refrigerator. After working on it for about an hour, he told us that it will start working back to normal in about 24 hours. About two hours after he left, the freezer side started work fine. However, as of 04/10/18, 6:07pm (PST) the refrigerator side it's still not working. I called American Home Shield and they offered to sent out another technician. I requested to speak to a supervisor and they stated that one was not available but one would get back to me. However, last time it took them two weeks to get back to me.

I called again on April 12th because a supervisor had not called me back. Keshawn stated that one will get back to me in 24-48 hrs. I called again on April 15th because a supervisor had not called me back. Andre stated that he will resubmit the request one will get back to me in 24-48 hrs. It's been well over a month and my refrigerator is still not working.

All they tell me is they can pass it on to the repair people. We have spent five nights in a hotel. So we can prepare to go to work. All you hear is, they can take the order and pass it on. And that they are working in their guidelines. Did you not care if you are without hot water for a week.

I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield because they don't know what they're doing. The only reason I got it is because I wanted to cover my roof. But it was a miscommunication there because I specifically said I wanted to have it to my Realtors. Also, the representative knew exactly that I wanted my roof to be covered. But when I called, they said it wasn't on there.

In addition to that, I have a complaint about the claim. I wanted to fix my heater because I have a newborn and it was getting cold in my room, then it got really hot and it was just driving me crazy. And the same thing happened when it's cold, it was blowing out a lot of hot air but only upstairs, on top and it was really hot in my room. So I didn't understand why the part in the bottom wasn't getting any air, either cool air or hot air whichever one I was using at the time. When I submitted the claim, I thought I picked the right one. But when the lady from the company called to set up a day to come and look at my air conditioner, I told her that it's basically for both and that since it's the same unit, they're gonna look up both.

She said that what I did is a claim for the AC and I had to go back online and submit another one for my heater. I told her that I don't understand which one is the heater because it's the same unit. She insisted it's not the same unit. They are two different things even though they're together. So I asked her if she can let me know which one of those. I read them off to her. At that time, I was thinking that since they are in two separate areas, I had to pay $75 because I still wanted my AC looked up. Meaning, $75 for my AC and then $75 for my heater. But she doesn't know since she's just the company that will come in and fix it

She told me to submit another claim and then to call American Home Shield and have them put it together with her because they might dispatch a different company. I preferred to have her somebody do it because it's hard with a newborn and I don't want two different companies to come in two different times. When I called American Home Shield, their representative said she did put it together because it dispatched a different company for the second claim. She didn't say it was a big issue but she told me she could fix it and that I wasn't supposed to pay $75 twice because those are considered the same. I told her that I didn't know that. If I went in and asked if they could change it to just the first company, and I let it go with two different companies, I would have paid two $75 twice and I would have got ripped off. And I wouldn't even have known. I would have no clue.

Whatever she did, she put it all on the notes and it did work because the same company came to my house to look at my AC and the heater. The guy said that my house was a little bit older and since I have a high ceiling, the hot and cold air mainly goes upstairs so there's nothing they can do about it. However, he was professional and awesome.

After that though, I kept on getting emails saying that my account is past due. It was just a big mess. I had to call back and I have to explain the situation all over again. The representative from AHS said they'll look into it and they'll call me back in 24 to 48 hours to let me know. They needed to hear the call to see what the lady I spoke before said and what she told me and what I told her because she put in there that I was canceling the claim. I told the representative that I wasn't canceling the claim. I told her that lady I spoke before said she had to cancel the claim to fix it so I don't get charged twice. I never canceled the claim. They never called back though so I called back a week later and then I got an email saying that my account is past due. So they never called back and never resolved the issue. But they insisted that the issue was resolved but they kept me out of the email so I can stop getting that saying my account is past due.

This was the third time I had to call and I had to explain it all over again to this guy and it was just so confusing. It's like a big long story and I'm horrible at explaining stuff. He was nice though and he told me that it was fixed and he just had to get a supervisor to take it out of the email system so I won't be getting that email. It was unprofessional that no one called to tell me that the claim was resolved. I can understand getting an email, that's a mistake they forgot to take it out. But then I noticed, I got another email recently saying to make a payment. Given my experience, next year I'm not gonna renew my warranty with American Home Shield. I will get a different company instead.

We’ve only used American Home Shield once and it was exceptional. We called them and their rep who handled our claim was absolutely perfect. We then got a call back from the provider of the repair and they scheduled the appointment two days later. They were here on time, were very polite, professional and informative. They were familiar with the appliance that was down and they knew exactly what the problem was with the circuit board. They said it would be about two weeks to get the part. About two weeks later, they had to replace some board and they showed us the old one, exactly where it broke. We were good. Hopefully, when we need AHS again, it would be a pleasurable experience as the first go around.

I called American Home Shield because my dishwasher was burning. There was a fire smell so, the repairman came out. I also had a dryer that sounds just like it had some kind of sneakers in it. The guy came out and he was an expert. He knew exactly what was happening and he explained it to me. And he was very patient and respectful. He ordered the parts necessary to get it done. He was superb.

But the website is a front for a fraudulent operation. I purchased the policy in good safe and it turned out to be something entirely different in the way it was portrayed to begin with which is a shame. How they manage the details and what it actually cost you to have a repair guy turns out to be much more expensive than the presenting. I was told that there would be a $75 deductible per repair and now, we’re charged for the part, additionally. I have a bill for a $135 which I paid the day of the transaction. I have my bank statement. But they are emailing me and sending me paper mail weekly for a $135. I also paid a couple of parts that were needed for the repair. It turned out to be hundreds of dollars where I could’ve just called a repairman.

Also, I asked when I called to sign up for the policy if I could cancel anytime and the person said, “Oh yes of course, you can do that.” But when I called to cancel it, I got this snippy woman and I was told that I have to keep the policy for an entire year. I said I wanted the number for corporate but she hung up on me. I found the number for corporate in Tennessee and spoke with a woman who allegedly terminated my policy, but then I got another mail for a $135 that I have paid for. I have spoken with people from Tennessee and people who have called me on the phone from all over the country. It has been absolutely a nightmare.

The repairmen could’ve been better but the experience with administrative end of it has been really horrible. I'm gonna go berserk very soon because I feel like I’m being harassed. I don’t deserve this. The delightful commercial is very appealing, especially for women. But advertising is not necessarily what’s going to happen when you actually participate with this organization.

I usually file my claims with American Home Shield through their online system and 90% of the time, the contractors they have sent out did a good job. They've come within a day or two. The last time I submitted a claim with American Home Shield was for a sewer line stoppage and everything was great with that. I also had a contractor come out for the gas water heater that quit working and he was great. When he arrived, he lit the pilot and that was it. He also said that if it happens again, it might be something to do with the gas valve inside. That was $75 for lighting the pilot and the thing with American Home Shield is after 30 days, it's a new contract. It's no big deal, though. I tried to light the pilot myself but couldn't do it which meant I was doing something wrong. The tech came out and within 10 minutes, had it lit.

Then there was one time where one of the AC guys came out and he didn't seem like he wanted to do too much because he wasn't gonna get paid very much. He wasn't happy working for the company. However, the incident that really threw me for a loop was when I had a claim about a year ago for the AC that went out in my other house. The guy that they were supposed to send out didn't come for about a week. The house is right in California and it was the middle of summer so it was 115 degrees. I couldn't leave the family out of it because they have children at the house. The renters also had screamed at me. I tried to resubmit a claim but I couldn't, so I went out and got somebody out there. They came out, put in a new fan outside and a new condenser, and it was all fixed. I had to pay out of my pocket around $500 and at that time, I almost switched to a different company. But other than that, American Home Shield has been really good.

I submitted the plumbing claim online and navigating through the website was really easy. It took two or three days for a technician to get out. Our interaction was great and he was full of explanations and suggestions. We have had no problems since the repair. However, many times including the service call I just placed online three days ago, it’s very frustrating when the provider doesn’t get in touch with me during the promised amount of time. I’d go online, enter my claim and then immediately get a text that says someone is gonna be contacting me within 24 business hours. Twice now, that hasn’t happened. Having a warranty on my property is very valuable, but I’m going to shop around before my next renewal and really quiz the other providers how they manage their vendors.

After submitting the claim to American Home Shield online, I researched the company they signed me for. Their rating was in Google and they were awful. All of their customers complained. So I called in to change the contractor to something else and the rep was very helpful and friendly. But after that, the contractor was supposed to call within 24 hours and he did not. I had to call him and he was not punctual with his appointment either. He told me he was gonna do a diagnostic test in my house to see what the problem was, that he was gonna send me an email on what the problem is and that if the insurance company would not cover it, he would give me his estimates on how much he was gonna charge me to do the job. But nothing happened. He never sent me any charges. He took the $75 deductible and disappeared. I was not very happy with the experience.

I called the 1800 number and told them the situation. There was leakage in the bathtub and they said it was not covered. But it’s a leakage. I don’t know why it’s not covered. I told them I have a sub pump that was not working and they told me it was not covered either. I asked why and they said that the contractor told them it’s inside the box but it is not. There’s a lid with four screws in it as a safety, for kids not to open the sub pump and not to fall inside the water. But the contractor refused to take these four screws. He said it’s not his job and somebody has to take it off.

Last year, I had electricity issues in my house and a very helpful contractor came into my house and fixed it with no issues. So I don’t know what’s going on with that company. I've had three claims and out of the three, I had two good experiences and the last one was awful. It was not right and the one who answered the phone that time also didn’t care. My renewal is coming this May and I’m not gonna renew my policy. She told me, “You had to do what you had to do.” So I told her that I don't care and that I would find another company.

Having electrical issue, I submitted a claim to AHS. I did it online and navigating through the website was fairly easy. I like it. Usually, it takes 24 hours for a technician to get to my place. The first company that was sent out didn’t really investigate the problem. The guy just said, “Oh, I’m gonna have to replace all of these. It’s gonna be thousands of dollars. I’m gonna have to call to get approval.” and walks back to his truck. And when he got done working up his claim, he said that some of it is gonna have to come out of my pocket. I called Home Shield and asked them if they have anybody else 'cause the first guy who was sent out really sucked. And so, they sent out Central Electricity Contractors and this company was absolutely phenomenal.

The technician had to comeback out three or four times but it was not their doing. It was just the age of the house itself. With the electric outlets being out in the weather for years, eventually, they’re gonna fail. The technician said that cheap GFI outlets were installed on the outside and that it’s only a matter of time before these will fail. We pretty much have most of them fixed and I don’t think we’re gonna have any more problems. It’s important to have a warranty. On a newer home, you could probably get away without having one for a few years but we just moved to the area and purchased this home, which is over 20 years old. And I like having the peace of mind that I may just have to pay $90 or $75, whatever the copay is and they’re gonna come out and fix all the problem. I’m not gonna have to worry about it especially when I’m on the road two weeks out of a month or my wife with me coming home to make repairs.

The contractor sent was is from a company called Little-Big Plumbing and they're one of the best ones I’ve had since I've been using repairs. He was very efficient and he came when he told me he'd be here. The guy did the repair in an hour and he told me what he did and also explained what happened. He was very good.

Previously, I had a contractor that was not very good. We had a leaky faucet and he didn't come back to fix what he was supposed to fix. He said he was gonna order the part then come back. I waited three months but he never showed up. I called him several times but because the callback timeline of 60 days that I have has already passed, he never came back. I called him again and he never showed up. That plumber is the only bad thing in my whole AHS experience and AHS needs to look at the feedback from other people to see if they don't need to use people like him. So, I was glad AHS sent me a different contractor for my recent claim. And since they were out, the plumbing has been very good. Overall, American Home Shield gets things done and they do a good job. The American Home Shield warranty is a good plan and I'm satisfied.

He told us exactly what was wrong and fixed it. It’s working fine now and that was great. It’s still working fine, so I’m very confident in his work. He was also very polite and direct. I loved it.

For the AC, I knew I had a hole in my coil for the second unit upstairs, that’s why I called. When Airtronics came out, my wife was home and there two guys. One stayed downstairs with her and the other one was upstairs to inspect the AC. The fear has gone into my wife and they said how the ductwork was filled with mold and that we can get sick. They also suggested that we get a hotel. My wife called me and said that I might need to come home. She asked me to hurry up and sign so we can get the work done. They had a quote for over $23,000 worth of repairs. They asked me to sign and they can have a crew here the next day to get the work done.

After they left, I told my wife that I have a trusting issue, so I went up in the attic myself and saw that there was no breach of my seal for my AC. They didn’t even look inside my AC and the pictures they showed my wife were faux or historical photos of the place, so I called back American Home Shield. I said that I need another group out here, anybody except Airtronics and that I would like a company with a rating of over an 8 if possible because they said Airtronics was around 6.

This turned up Royal Air. There was a scheduling issue for the first time and they couldn’t make it. There was a storm that night before that knocked out their building, so they couldn’t make it to the reschedule for Friday. But the tech was out on Friday and I made sure that I was home that time. I told him exactly what the problem was and the history. He went up in the attic and he said that part of the check for American Home Shield was they had to inspect for mold. I said okay and that he can use the same open the guy did. He said that no one has opened anything there and that it was all sealed.

He went ahead and opened the seal. He said that they don’t take pictures because they don’t know what they’re looking at, they take a video. I told him that the other guy showed me 10 to 12 pictures. He said that I didn’t have any mold. It was lightly duffed, but it was in pretty good shape. He also said that my coil’s all black and that he’ll submit his report, and he did.

I called American Home Shield and they said that they got the report. They also mentioned what they’ll do and the cost that I will be paying for the R22. The same guy came out about a week later and he fixed it. I had told American Home Shield my experience with the first company and that I didn’t want them out here. All they said in the email was I wouldn’t have to pay for that second guy to come out. I’m feeling good about Home Shield since they took care of both my issues. My only concern is I referred my parents to this service. If I was an elderly couple, I could have easily been taken advantage of because an older person is not going to go up in the attic to verify. They would take people’s words, so it was very concerning to me that I can be easily taken advantage of by certain people. So, I put my parents on notice to be cautious of anything they tell them.

AHS said that my claim was sent to a certain plumber, then those people called me up and set the appointment. The plumbers were great and the issue has been fixed since.

I had the complete house coverage warranty paying $600. Last year, we had few instances where I had service requests. And AHS completed work including replacing refrigerator. Recently logged in to my account check the warranty. My contract had expired in Feb. Was not renewed, AHS didn’t even inform. Called the CS, was told have a new package for $1300. That’s more than double the annual contract. Even though website offers other contracts, I was not offered similar pricing. So until I didn’t have any services, they covered and once they started paying for these, they jacked up the price. Just lost a loyal customer... BAD company.

I wanted AHS to double check an electrical panel box I have to make sure everything's okay so I went online and filed a claim. That process was very quick and easy and they called me the same day. The guy they sent was very knowledgeable and really courteous. I recommend him. In fact, I recommended him to a neighbor who was looking for something. I'm a realtor and I put AHS on different clients' homes. My own daughter has had it for four years and it just the most wonderful thing to have. She’s had two appliances go out that they came out to fix. Another client had their AC fixed. I’d recommend AHS to anybody to put on their home. It’s a no-brainer.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield that’s still outstanding was a washing machine that couldn’t be fixed economically. It took four days for the contractor to come out to look at the washing machine. They said that they were busy and that they won’t be able to get out for a couple days. If you have something like a washing machine go out and if it’s taking that contractor a couple of days to come out to you, then you should have the option of choosing a different contractor that can actually get out as opposed to calling somebody on a Thursday and they can’t get out till the next Wednesday. Then when they looked at the washing machine they had to order a part but it was on backorder for two weeks. Then they had to schedule the installation. Once they did, we told them that the machine was still leaking. At that point, they recalled the washing machine and it took about two weeks to total off the washing machine for a total of a six-week turnaround time.

In the meantime, I just went to a garage sale, bought another washing machine just so I could wash clothes because I got a family of five and six weeks of not doing laundry. There’s no laundromat anywhere near so I had to buy a washing machine just to temporarily get me by. Then after it’s all said and done, AHS told me that I can buy a washing machine and that they’ll reimburse me. So, I had to go out and buy another washing machine. We were just in time for inventory at Lowe’s and even though the washing machine was on sale, they had to order it for two weeks because they don’t have any washing machines in stock anymore. So, I'm still waiting for that new washing machine to be installed. I’m now at 10 weeks by the time the first thing happens.

When I tried to call AHS to get answers, the wait time is an hour. So, I waited for an hour and I got all the way through waiting after an hour, then somebody came on the line and all I heard was, “Hello?” then it was cut. They hung up on me. I just waited an hour for nothing. Overall, I’m not happy. I just bought a new washing machine, submitted my receipt, but I haven't gotten a check yet. They were able to come out and finally fix the problem but it took a lot longer to fix the washing machine than expected. There’s probably a better company out there with a shorter hold time.

Another claim was for the pool pump. The contractor replaced it with a refurbished one but it was a bad one, so I had to call back after two weeks to tell them that the same thing is happening. It’s getting hot and making a loud noise. So, they came out and replaced it again, but I asked them about possibly getting a new pump instead of a refurbished one since I had problems with a refurbished one. The pool company tech that came out was wonderful though. The owner is really knowledgeable and very good with customer service.

My house was sold but it hasn’t closed yet and last Wednesday, an inspector came out and inspected everything. He found a few things that needed to be repaired and a little problem in two different bathroom faucets. There are workers coming out today to work on that and it’s nice that American Home Shield is going to take care of that for me. They came out for my air conditioner this past year and they also came out in the past for my microwave and the icemaker on my refrigerator. Every time a worker has come, they’ve done a good job.

When I submit a claim, I call the number of AHS and they select the company that will come and that’s fine. Everyone they've picked has worked out good. The contractors were very professional and I have no complaints at all. All the workers were very polite, nice, did their work and knew what they’re doing. I’m moving soon so I won’t be needing AHS but I’d like to have them as long as I’m still here. Once I leave my home, I should call them and let them know not to take money out of my checking account anymore. I’m glad I signed up for AHS, it’s been worth it and I would recommend it.

The contractor was real thorough and when he thought the furnace was fixed but turned it on and it didn’t work, he went right back and did a configuration to the switch wherein he made it go straight to where it clicked on when the thermostat goes up. But I wasn't sure so I called and they put in for plumbing services, and the company came out and it took a look, and they wanted to reschedule to cut open my wall which was fine, but they didn't think it was actually a plumbing issue. They thought it was with the heat from my heater extending and contracting. It was like a pipe rubbing on wood which sounds like a dripping noise. The tray of the microwave was not spinning and I called AHS about that. Then we had a leak at our fridge and the defrosting clogged up. So I called about that, too, and I tried to add the microwave claim on. First, the automated system said I had to talk to somebody, so I did. Then they added another company so I called them and asked why they were gonna have two people come out. They said they were gonna make one person come and later on, I got another set of emails from another company saying that they were coming to check both the fridge and the microwave, so I had to call AHS back again. The next morning, I got more emails from another company saying that they were coming to check both things. So I had to keep calling AHS to make sure I wasn't getting double booked or triple booked.

The assigned contractor switched back and forth from My Appliance to another company several times and the scheduling was really difficult. I ended up spending a few hours on hold to get it resolved and make sure that only one company was coming and we were only paying one fee for both items. In the end, it all worked out. The techs from My Appliance were great. They took care of everything and did it quickly. They also called and asked me to give them the model number of the microwave before they came out and they had the part with them when they got here. Still, AHS needs to hire more people. I have them now for a year and a half and I called a few times for a couple of different items. And majority of those times, I've been told that the volume of calls that they were getting was higher than normal. If volume is always higher than normal, then maybe they don't have enough capacity.

We always have to call American Home Shield when we have a claim because we have two accounts with them. American Home Shield covers a lot of things, but their customer service is so bad. The wait times are ridiculous when you have to call back for any questions. We recently called in a claim for the oven and it ended up being irreparable. It dragged on and on and on, and when I called in, the wait times were around an hour to talk to somebody about that. We tried to get refunded for the oven where we have to pay for it, so we sent an email to American Home Shield and it took days to get a response. I just got a response yesterday for an email I sent on the 11th. They usually take about two weeks to send an email about their offer.

A person shouldn't have to spend that much time to process a claim. And then we had to put in the new double oven because American Home Shield only gave us $800 to retrofit and purchase it. We've been with them for a really long time. And we don't plan on leaving American Home Shield, but we just really like them to improve their customer service.

I haven’t been too happy with American Home Shield. I have two properties with them. One came with the home that I purchased in August and then I purchased one for a rental that I had. The first problem that I had was with a spa that went bad. They’re really good about sending out their contractors. The person came out right away. The spa caught on fire from a leak and the whole motor needed to be replaced and they wouldn’t cover anything because they said it was a secondary damage. But the leak was what caused the fire. They said they couldn’t tell if the leak caused the fire but the person that came out said, “This is what triggered the fire, the leak.”

So I said, “You don’t cover the pipe. You won’t cover anything even though it was the original leak that caused the other damage but I thought the pipes and all of this was covered in the insurance and I’m looking at my policy." They said but now it was a secondary damage and since the motor was damaged by the fire, that would be considered secondary damage. So I said, “When you have a problem, it may cause secondary damage but it is caused by the original problem that is covered under the insurance. I don’t see why that wouldn’t be fixed."

It was $75 for me to pay for someone to come out in addition to the insurance which I knew was my first to pay. So they tried to accommodate me by giving me two $75 certificate or coupons that was just on record in case I had any future problems. So at least that was a $150 because what happened was I had gotten additional insurance on the spa itself because that was not included in my original home warranty.

So when I purchased the home, I added it on. I said I wanted the spa covered too. So I paid out a pocket for that additional coverage which is like about $375 for the year. They said they weren’t gonna cover the spa or any of the damages that was done to it, I was like, “Well then there’s no purpose of me having the insurance. I’m just gonna cancel the spa insurance. Just give me the prorated of the amount.” And I couldn’t even cancel at that point. I’m really lost out by paying upfront. If I had paid monthly, I could just stop paying and my insurance could have just been canceled anyway. But because I paid upfront as a good customer, then I have to get the disadvantages of that.

I paid $350 to get the spa removed on my own and I lost out the $375 for the insurance. I said, there was no need for me to carry insurance for the spa if I have a car insurance without a car. They wouldn’t rebate or prorate me. They wouldn’t do anything. I just lost out the money that I put upfront for the year coverage. So what I learned from that is pay by the month and once you stop paying, they’ll gonna cancel your policy anyway.

Second, at the rental property there was an electrical problem. Two of the outlets were not working so they sent out an electrician with Castle contractors. This issue wasn't on American Home Shield but it does fall on them on who they contract out. They contacted me within the 24 hours. We missed each other’s call. I tried to call them back and I didn’t get in contact with them until four days later. I left several messages saying, "Well this is my third attempt to call." And then saying that it was my fourth attempt to call trying to set up a scheduled date for them to go out and take a look at the electrical work through American Home Shield.

So finally they said their phones were down. What kind of business has their phone down for four days. That just doesn’t sound right. So we finally got somebody out to take a look at it and according to their report they couldn’t find the problem through just checking the socket. So they said that the only way that they could find a problem was by going inside the walls.

First of all, it’s on the backsplash of the kitchen. There’s nothing hinging really on the backslash of the kitchen. I would have to get somebody to come out, remove the drywall and they don’t even know exactly where the problem is going to. So there’s no telling how much drywall would be removed. Then I got this call from the claim department of AHS.

The second option would be to tap into an existing power source that was already working in the kitchen. I said well, “Let’s just go with the second option.” “Well, we don’t cover the second option either.” I’m like, “What? But they don’t have to go through the drywall. You just have to tap into another source that was already there. That’s not a lot of work to do. So why wouldn’t you cover the second option?” They said, “Well, because we don’t know what the problem was, what caused the electrical problem. If it was caused by a nail or something, we wouldn’t cover that. So we don’t know that.”

I said, “Why does it even make a difference if your job is to cover the electrical and there’s an easy way just go through the wall and just tap into an existing source? Who cares really about anything else?” Very confusing. So I’m like, “What do you cover?” Well honestly, by the time they tell me what they cover for electrical, I’m like, “That’s something a handyman could do. Why even have the insurance?” It does seem pointless.

I called Castle contractors back when American Home Shield gave me those two choices because I have to get it fixed. It just can't not be fixed. So I tried to contact Castle contractors again. Another four days before I even got in contact with them and they only answered their phone after 4:00. They don’t work on the weekend, that’s fine, but I left three messages to follow-up to get the problem corrected.

So when I finally get to talk to a person, she seemed annoyed. I said, “I’m sorry. My name is Serina. I don’t know if you received any of my messages or if you need for me to explain to you again where we are in the process.” “No, I listened to your messages. We got them.” And this exactly what she said, “Yes, I got your messages. I contacted the electrician, and it’s not my fault that they haven’t contacted me back. There’s nothing I can do.

I told them, “If there’s some problems with your phone, just give me a quote of how much it would cost to get it fixed on my own. To tap into an existing power source which was option two that American Home Shield gave me. Send me an email and then we can communicate that way.” And I didn’t even get an email. So I’m waiting for a response and I’m not getting a response. So she said, “Well, we tried to contact the person and it’s not my fault that they haven’t contacted me back. There’s nothing I can do.” I said, “Wait a minute. I’m just trying to get the problem fixed.”

She said, “Well, we firstly have priorities. Our priorities are with the insurance.” I said, “No. This is part of the insurance.” She said, “No, since they denied your claim.” I said, “So now it doesn’t matter if my issue gets fixed anymore? That’s okay. I’ll call American Home Shield.” I called American Home Shield and talked to a different person. They were looking at my records, “Unfortunately, we can’t cover option 1 or option 2.” I said, “I’m not asking you to cover any of the options. What I’m saying to you is that you are contracting out Castle contractors, I am putting a complaint against this company."

Not only that they seemed unprofessional, now I even have a doubt with the original analysis that they gave me in the first place. And they’re kind of shabby with the way they’re dealing with it right now. How do I know that they did a thorough job in finding the original problem? If I want someone else to come out, I have to pay for a second opinion and if they come out with the same stuff, this is what they told me. If they come up with the same analysis as the first contractors, then I have to pay that $75. So now that I’m already out, I haven’t even got the job fixed. So I would be out of $150 potentially and still I don’t have the job fixed. It's very frustrating.

They should reevaluate their contractors and what their policies are because when they're selling you the policy, it all looks great. They're telling you, “This is what covered all the electrical. We cover this. We cover that. Blah, blah, blah.” And then it’s like all these little fine things that come up and you’re like, “What? Well, what do you cover? Because you’ve been telling me all this when you were selling it.”

The only thing I’m satisfied about it, is they tried to accommodate the two $75 when they didn’t do anything with the spa. But the things that they cover, you can just hire a handyman to do it. Like if you’re just gonna see if there’s power getting to an outlet and if you have to change the little outlet itself, a handyman could do that. So now Castle contractors are coming out, gave me a $395 quote to tap into an existing power outlet. That’s something the insurance easily could have covered. If you don’t know what the existing problem is, you just wanna fix the problem. You just want it resolved. To me, to pay $395 out of the insurance that I paid over $75 for the year would not be a bad way to satisfy any customer.

I want other people to ask the questions that they don’t promote when they’re trying to sell you the insurance because when things start happening, you get to runaround.” Because if I had known it, I wouldn’t have gotten the insurance. I don’t think I’m gonna renew it unless something comes up where I can say, “Okay. Maybe it’s worth it.” But right now it’s not worth it because I’m out of pocket with the insurance which covered nothing and then paying for the expenses which I pay for everything that I called for except for a simple rekeying, that is so easily done.

At the beginning of my American Home Shield membership, I used to call in and talk to an operator and request the service. But now, I do it online with one exception. The last time I used my account, the system did not recognize my password and after three tries, it said that the password was not valid and I had to click on “Forgot Password” to reset it. They sent the email to me to reset my password. I reset it with a new one and still, I could not get in. Since then, I’ve been locked out of my account. I reported that on several occasions to American Home Shield and they said that somebody will resolve it and will contact me, but nothing happened.

Apart from that bad experience, everything else was good. When my refrigerator needed to be repaired, I made a request with AHS and the technicians came to my house at a scheduled time and took care of the issue immediately. However, American Home Shield is not geared up to handle any issue with their service and the customer support is very poor and I’m not gonna recommend it to anybody because of that.

The contractor who came out was very efficient. He told me abruptly what the problem was and he got the heater fixed. I'm hoping that it doesn't become an annual affair because we had a similar problem last season. But other than that, American Home Shield is a good company to do business with.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the Posi-Temp valve they had to replace in the bathroom. I submitted the claim online and the experience was easy and didn’t take long. The contractor that was sent out was great. When he came out for the service call my son’s shower had gone out the night right before he came so I told him that I can put another service call or he can figure out how. He was able to add it on and make it one big thing. He knew exactly what he was doing because I tried to do it myself to screw it up but I had to leave it to the professional. He did it and was quick. The performance of the shower has been great since the repair. I've said to everybody that they need to get American Home Shield and that it's like insurance. They’ll never know when they’re going to need it until they need it.

First off I have had AHS for 2+ yrs now. Never had a problem except for my water heater which last year we had a issue with a pipe that started leaking. Called AHS and they got a company out ASAP and it was fixed, Done! No issues with where the water heater was located nor how it was covered or the position/where the water heater was facing. Fast forward to this week, Monday one of the pipes was leaking and there was no hot water. Called AHS with full confidence in getting it fixed, Tuesday comes along and the CNJ Services LLC tech guy comes out, replaces the pipe but charges US $25 to replace it since it was outside and the water heater was not covered. Yeah it wasn't covered because me and my husband removed the shed to allow for the CNJ company to come in easily. Whatever, the heater was "fixed". The plumber said there would be hot water available in a hour. Waited all day, tried the water and no hot water!

Called the company CNJ at 4:32 pm Tuesday to have them send the guy back out, this place was closed. I then called AHS and informed them of the issue, the lady said that as long as the water heater is COVERED it would be covered in the warranty. She also instructed us to leave the water heater covered and let them do it. Anyway, submitted a new request free of charge and scheduled with the company 2 DAYS later! Today, guy comes out. moved the shed out the way looks at the issue (the wires were corroded and the heater dead) then says let me check with your insurance, he puts the shed back slightly and takes a picture of it.

Apparently, my water heater will cost $700+ to replace and AHS is not going to cover it due to the position of the water heater and it not being covered. ARE YOU SERIOUS! This whole time I am relying on my Home Warranty to cover it and fix it just to be told "the way that the water heater is positioned and exposed it is not covered." I could have gotten this fixed Tuesday! But no I decided to go through my AHS all to be told no.

I had a company come out to do annual maintenance on our furnace and their visit resulted in discovering a cracked heat exchanger and in shutting down our furnace. So, we had to get something done. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield's online portal and then because it was really cold, I did a follow-up call to make sure it was being processed quickly. Their customer service and willingness to work with us were really good. The representatives who I spoke with a couple of different times were professional and did a reasonably good job answering questions most of the time although the answers that I received weren't always what I wanted to hear.

The contractor did a great job too, but I was hoping to have a different overall result out of the experience. The company came out and agreed that the furnace needed to be replaced. Since American Home Shield wanted to replace it with one of the lowest end furnaces that they could, I asked the company if I could pay the difference and get a better furnace. The company said I could try but American Home Shield won't do that. So, I talked to American Home Shield's customer service several times and it got sent to a few different places, but the end result was that they were not willing to allow us to upgrade the furnace. We just went with the furnace that they would have installed and that would be in our house for the next 20 years.

In terms of emergency crisis response and being able to get some very basic level of coverage, American Home Shield is worthwhile if you have older equipment. But they're going to control your choices along the way. You're not gonna have a lot of freedom to choose what actually goes into your home, which is unfortunate. Homeowners should have a say in what's being installed in their house.

When I called American Home Shield to have my electricity wires fixed, the rep said that he would connect me to the company. The guy who came was good and did a good job. They fixed it and the electricity is working good. Then, my roommate told me that there was an electricity wire plug problem which he forgot to tell me the first time. It was a 10-year-old plug and was worn. So, I had to call AHS back but on the second call, I was not happy as the reps talked so rough. Also, the company was not happy on the callback and I understand the owner was losing money but they were asking me for $75 for just one electricity plug.

I asked my roommate to pay but he didn't want to. The repair guy said he wouldn’t come for free. I talked to my roommate and we had a big argument. I called the company back and told them I was sorry and that I don’t know how to pay them. My last experience with American Home Shield was not good. But if a friend asks, I’d tell them that AHS is good and I love the company. I'm very happy about them.

I tried to call American Home Shield but because of the call volume, it was easier to go online to submit the claim. I had my account number, I signed on, and with the information I put in, they found me in the system. They had a list of what’s wrong and I put "plumbing" there and then I wrote what’s going on and submitted it. Then they sent me an e-mail saying that they let a contractor know about the claim. And the contractor called me and told me when he would be able to come out. I was at work when he came over but my mom said he was really nice and he was able to do everything. He also cleared it out from inside the house to the overflow drain and since the repair, everything's been going great. American Home Shield came in handy, so get it and keep it.

I called about a plumbing issue and they said someone would get back to me within 24 hours. Within two hours, someone called and then they were there the next day. They were on time, professional and efficient. They took care of the problem which wasn’t that easy because my house is older than 50 years. They had to replace a part and someone had to go get the part. They took care of it and they seemed to know what they were doing. I haven’t had a problem since so I was very pleased.

AHS’s service was responsive. Although the first time I used AHS, it took three months to get our refrigerator fixed and it was not their fault. We have a 21-year old Sub-Zero refrigerator and it's a built-in type with a wood panel. The first person, who actually tried to fix it with a new thermostat, put in a bad thermostat and didn’t realize it. But the techs of the same company said that the first person should have realized it immediately. So there was a delay and then there was another order for the next thermostat. The replacement cost is gonna be about $12,000 for us. But I told them that they need to fix it.

Also, we moved into a new house a year and a half ago and I thought that we just have some really bad insulation up there. I got AHS this year because of the appliances and I knew that the HVAC was aging. We have two systems and one was replaced in 2009, so it should be fine for a few more years. However, one room was cold and it seemed to be using emergency heat a lot. When I was leaving the garage coming into the house, I heard the heater cycling on and off within 12 seconds and that was not a good thing. I went out to the external unit that was cycling on and off so quickly and I saw that it was frozen. So, I shut the system down and called a local guy to come and look at it. He came the next day and it was thawed at that point and he said that we had a hole in our coils. He then said that we have to replace the coils as we need a new coil pack.

Since I have American Home Shield, I called them and had them come out. The local guy left me his notes and I showed it to the people who came here, but they did an independent inspection and said that our coil pack was done. The problem was that they’re going from the R22 refrigerant to the R4 by 2020. They said that they could replace the coil pack and get me a new refrigerant but it was getting more expensive since they were phasing it out. And so, we opted to get a whole new unit.

But then, AHS did not cover the replacement unit since they could have covered the coil pack, which I understand that. They were gonna replace what is actually the problem. A week later, my whole compressor could have gone since it was 16 years-old. And if I’m gonna give some money for this, I might as well just use it and put it to a whole new system and not have to worry about it for another 10 or 15 years. That was the thought process. The guys AHS sent were great. They gave me a number and said that AHS was gonna credit me $800 or $900. However, I’d come to find out later that they never talked to AHS. And so I thought that was weird. I would like to have known how that process was working.

This year, our claims already paid itself off by about $500 for our positive. It was interesting because AHS actually called and they said my wife was complaining and she wasn't. It was a miscommunication. I don’t know where that blame would be. Would it be me asking the right question, or would it be him being more forthright and explaining the process? Despite that, the job was done quickly and done efficiently.

They ended up replacing the unit and that was a smart business on their part. They did a great job. We have a walk-in attic where the unit is on the inside, and so they had a completely open space to put in a new unit. They advised me on what to do and what not to do. I wanted to upgrade the unit because we’re adding about 350 square feet to the house in the next couple of years. He said to just go up a half ton. If it goes up too much, it cycles too often because it’s a powerful one and then it wears out and I didn’t need that. I was very happy with their explanation, their expertise, and the timeliness. It took them almost seven hours to do the outside unit and inside completely, which was fine.

One day, I decided to dye a batch of curtains blue and when my washing machine emptied, my kitchen sink, which is on the other side of the wall from the washing machine, filled up with blue water. As did my shower and tub down the hallway and some toilets. So, I called AHS and I was able to get somebody out the same day to look at it. It was determined that the main pipe coming to the house needed to be snaked.

The street plumber who came out was awesome. We had dinner guests when he arrived and he said he could snake out the toilet in the guest bathroom or come back the next day. I promised him that I would not do laundry and told him to please come back the next day. When he did, we had to pay extra for the clean out because that was not covered by American Home Shield. He put in thee extra little pipe things which we also paid for, then he cleaned the main pipe out. And all of a sudden, no water was coming back in to my toilet, tub, sink, or shower. It was very exciting and he fixed the issue less than 24 hours from our blue incident. In fact, I still have a dish scrubber brush that got dyed blue in the sink. It was a great experience.

In the past, I always paid my $75 in person. Then they said I could pay it online so I've gone online several times to do that. But I couldn't figure out how to pay it. Their website doesn't show that I have anything to pay on my account and I haven't gotten any invoices. But I had that plumbing incident and a washing machine repaired.

The same plumber also came out to fix my tub when it was dripping and wouldn't turn off all the way. Then it started not working again, so, he fixed it again, which I was grateful for because I didn't know what happened. One time, he even came out the same day to fix it again. He was awesome and American Home Shield was wonderful. They recognized that having septic backup into my house was not good so they got me on the fast track and I really appreciated it. But I don't know how to pay my $75 co-pay. We also had to get a new washing machine because something went out with it. It was so old and the part wasn't fixable. AHS gave us a new washing machine for no cost and when my friends asked me how I was doing it, I told them about American Home Shield.

The technician was very good and professional. He was one of the better plumbers that I’ve used with American Home Shield. Since the repair, it's been great. And sometimes, the response time of AHS is too long. But with this claim, I was very pleased.

My problem with American Home Shield sometimes is when you expect them to be able to do something for you, it’s like, “Oh, well, we don’t have access.” I then spend a bunch of money to try to give them access. I had a plumbing issue before. It was with my kitchen sink and the water was backing up. They said they needed to tear the wall down in order for them to go do what it was that they needed to do. That was crazy.

Also, I use American Home Shield once a year on the average. But yet still I’m spending $600 or $700 even if I didn't use them in a year. And then when a contractor comes, I still pay an additional $75. I don’t like that type of thing. It gets to the point where I think I should cancel my account and I might as well save the money somewhere else and then when I have a problem, I’ll just have this emergency funding.

He checked out the motor and then he told us what the problem was. He went out to the car and got a part but that one didn't work, so he had to go to the store. He came back immediately then fixed it. He was done within an hour. After the repair, the heater has been working good.

I like American Home Shield and the only problem I had was the dishwasher never got fixed so we don't really use it. I made two claims. They came out and I don't know what they did. I even stopped worrying about it because I'm just paying the deductible. The first time I called for the dishwasher, they came out and fixed it. We used it one time and then it stopped draining water. And then, I called again. Someone came back and it was a waste of money to me. It was already $150 and getting another dishwasher is $200. When I talked to someone about it, they said they have to come and check it out. If they come to fix it and not replace it, that will be over $200. So, I just stopped dealing with that.

Overall, everything else has been awesome apart from that one experience with the dishwasher. I would recommend that people get American Home Shield because, for instance, the cost of fixing the heat would be over $5000. And most of the time, with others like Home Depot, you have to schedule for an appointment but with American Home Shield, they can come out the same day.

It was my first time using them and the claims process was fine for me. I like to speak to somebody so that I know that it’s being addressed right then. I called on a Saturday, so the contractor had to return my call on Monday. It was a decent turnaround. The contractor came out on Thursday and had to order the part so we had to wait for that. But he was very professional and he was on time. I got a text message and an email when he was in route, so great communication from them. The faucet doesn’t leak now and I can use my sink.

After several phone calls with American Home Shield and the plumbing company, we finally gave up and posted a complaint with the BBB. So in they changed their system so you can't write a check directly to the contractor who comes out and does the work on whatever is broken. And if you have a card on file, you still have to put in the card information on a service request as it does not notice this card. Also they are the most expensive of the home warranties in the US. Their website is only good for doing service requests. You can not chat online with Customer Service, or even cancel a policy. And then to be directed to Customer retention, it took them 8 mins. to finally answer my call after being redirected, which tells me that they must have a lot of people calling in to close their account. Also they have an Administrative charge to cancel policy, which if you really care about business and the customer, you would not have this. Also with complaints, they don't offer anything to help. They just apologize and apologize, but want to keep your money.

So either go with someone else or don't use a home warranty. At least with other companies they will offer something off your bill or such. Not this company. For the last two years, they claim to have mailed renew notices, but what about catching up to the 21st century and not only mail, but also email. And if contract is to be renewed, why do you send it out in January, when it doesn't renew until March. Seems a little early to notify the customer. But again, this company is all about the money and not the service.

I was told yes it was covered. A plumber arrived and wanted to cut into my wall to "explore" the cause of the busted pipe. He explained the warranty would not cover if it was due to freezing. I sent him away with no work being performed because this is not what I was told when I scheduled the appointment. I reviewed the contract and nowhere in the plumbing section does it mention a lack of coverage due to freezing. I've canceled my contract.

I had this home repair insurance for over a year when my central AC unit died. I called for repairs and waited two days only to be told that I would have to get my own repair service as they had nobody in the area. I did call and the repairman said that he could get it running temporarily, but that he could not actually fix as it had freon leaks that could not be fixed. He turned in a bill for replacement. Home Shield suddenly had a repair service that they sent who said freon would cost $600 not covered by the policy, and there was no guarantee that it would not leak out. I was left with the choice of paying for the freon which probably was temporary or taking a very small payout if I canceled the policy. I took the payout and paid $500 for a new AC unit myself.

Updated on 07/24/2018: I was contacted by Mariah **, social media specialist of AHS. She offered to send me an additional $670 on my AC. That was also in May. I never received the check she said would be sent. I have called and left multiple messages, but she will not return my calls or answer my multiple emails. This adds insult to the already lack of adequate payment.

I have a company that comes every few days. They said that my furnace should not be turned on at all. It is so old and unsafe. They determined that while it was still functioning, it was not safe to function for a variety of reasons and it’s under the house in the crawlspace area. I called AHS for them to verify that and they came within 48 hours. The same thing. It was unsafe for it to function so, it needed to be replaced was the next step. All of a sudden, I heard some individual company saying that they were coming to replace the furnace. I didn’t even know what AHS has decided. Nobody called me of that decision made by AHS, but AHS insisted they called me and left me a message. I never saw a call or a message. I could have said to just replace it with what they have but I didn’t have the opportunity to talk to somebody so I could talk it through. It was such a hassle that it wasn’t worth my time.

It took me approximately 12 days to continue trying to call AHS and reach someone to confirm and this was in the middle of the winter with no furnace. They confirmed that they agree that the furnace needs to be replaced. With AHS, you have to get that confirmation, else, you do not proceed. They said that if I don't want to replace with them, I have to talk to somebody else which would take another who knows what it takes to be on a phone call for three hours before somebody answers the phone or hangs up on you.

So, I decided to proceed and replace it independently because I had no choice. My house was freezing in the winter and I have pets and family so, I couldn’t quite wait. We were in the middle of a storm and I couldn’t get anyone at AHS to answer any straight answers for me other than I should replace it. But my question was how much would they give me if I did it independently or not. So, I went ahead, paid out of my pocket and replaced it with the company that normally services my unit because I’ve had good experiences with them in the past.

I continued talking to AHS and finally, I got through somebody and it took a number of days and hours on the phone waiting for somebody to answer the phone. I got a person on the phone for approximately five minutes who said that if I was to replace it myself, they would give me $566. The furnace costs $2,500. I had replaced it already and they said to me that I needed proof of the replacement done. I sent them that proof and I received a check recently for the $566. Had I not proceeded, I would be without a furnace most of December.

The biggest hurdle for me doing business with American Home Shield is the inability to talk to anyone. There’s a department that does customer service and there’s a department that determines whether your item needs to be replaced or not. And then, there’s a department that it separates and determines what you would pay if you are going to do it on your own. Those are three different departments. On those three different departments, I have to hold on forever which was not the case before. Everything used to be a lot faster when I call them.

The second thing is the encouragement that I received from every angle was, “Do not talk to us. Go to the website.” When I go to the website, the only thing I'm able to do is to open a new ticket or a new item that is broken. There’s no ability to send an e-mail to the people who can reimburse me or an e-mail to the people who determine if my item should be replaced. So, I'm completely shut down and isolated from any decision maker of any kind. That makes it very difficult to communicate with AHS. I’m being herd into a path of either I take the deal or go away and pay it myself. It diminishes the value of paying a monthly fee for insurance that supposedly was covered if something goes wrong. In this place, it definitely didn’t.

It’s the second time that happened because there was an air conditioning about two summers ago. I had to do the air conditioning and I spent over a month without air conditioning in the middle of July. Same thing, same pattern and same scenario. I’ve been a member of AHS since I purchased this house in 1994. They’ve had some things that have changed in my house at least a washer and a dryer, one furnace, one air conditioning, and now the second furnace. Those were the things that have been addressed with American Home insurance and about a good half of those I’ve had to pay out of pocket.

My husband and I have already concluded that if we were to sell this house, we would not pursue having that insurance for a home again because of the time, the hassle and the rate of return. I don’t make decisions, I don’t know anything about furnaces and I’m not an expert in that area so, I would rely on them to help me think through. Is it really worth it for me to buy the more expensive one with my individual service provider or should I just take the one that they give me which is probably going to be good enough for the same amount of time? That is the decision I need to make and I need some support from them. I would hope they could explain to me what brand and model I should get and that allows me to compare. Since I can’t even get to them, I don’t even know.

We bought our house in August and by the end of that month, my AC went out. I called American Home Shield, paid the $75 and they sent somebody out. Within 48 hours their contractor was out. At that point, the gentleman who came was from Perry Mechanical. He told us that the compressor had gone out and told us that American Home Shield covered the compressor. But, once they replaced the compressor, we had to replace the Freon which was going to be around $600. That was fine because we need air as we were all asthmatic. However, we had a hurricane and it caused back up and the contractors didn't come out for almost a week to put the new compressor in.

Also, once the contractor came to put the new compressor in, he tried to make it easier for himself and rode off on my property. Instead of parking in the driveway or on the street, he was on the grass and he got stuck. He was very preoccupied with getting his truck out. Still he fixed that problem. But then, not even a month later, I have no air again. So I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody else out. This time, the problem was with the capacitator and he fixed that right away.

Most recently in November or December, I turned my heating unit on but nothing was coming out. I called American Home Shield and Perry Mechanical came out again. For some reason, they came out at almost 6 at night. I have a lot of trees on my land so it was very dark. The technician then said that my heat pump was not hooked up. At first, he made me feel like I was stupid and that it was only a breaker that wasn't on. I told him that didn't make sense. So, he turned the breaker on, came inside the house and turned my heater on which tripped the breaker again. It did that three times. He then went upstairs and told me that my house was wired for a straight cool.

That wasn't right. The first time I called, I wasn't in my house for two weeks. Before that, I had a very intense inspection which showed that my air and my heat were working. The gentleman who did the inspection left both on at for 20 minutes at a time each. He took pictures of what the thermostat was to what it was before he shut it off. So, Perry Mechanical's technician then said that I needed an electrician.

American Home Shield sent the electrician and he asks me to go outside to talk as it was colder inside my house than outside. The electrician told me that whoever put the compressor in my AC unit never hooked up the heat pump. So with the heat pump disconnected, my house was running on straight cool. The wiring was not proper and so the technician said that he could fix it for $900. He then told me to call Perry Mechanical and ask them to connect my heating pump.

Again, I called Perry Mechanical and they sent out the same guy who came out and told me to get an electrician. Again he comes out at almost 6 o'clock at night and tells me it was too dark for him to do anything with the air conditioner. He went upstairs to my air handler and disconnected some wires. He rigged it so that it would give me heat until he came back. He told me that his wife is going to surgery and he couldn't be out the day after. That was a Wednesday and he said that he would be out on Friday or Monday to take care of the problem. Still, I didn't know what he did up there. The first time, he ripped my air handler door which he broke and so he had to tape it back up. So, I told him that he had to come back and fix it because I didn't need my house to blow up on me.

That technician then said "I'm not a technician. I'm not an HVAC person". He then added that what he did was not going to give me heat but it would heat up my house a little bit so it would not be as cold as it was at the time. Even so, it was 60 degrees outside and my house was 40 degrees at the time. With what he did, the temperature still didn't go up further than 50.

The following week, I waited and waited. Finally, I called when I saw in the news that in a couple of days it was going to get cold again. I then called Perry Mechanical and spoke to a Kimmy. I explained to her that their guy came out, rigged something and told me he would be back but then he never came back. Kimmy then told me that she talked to her boss, the owner of Perry Mechanical and he said that the guy who installed the compressor and the Freon had gotten fired. He also told Perry Mechanical that he didn't touch anything to do with the heat pump. So, I had to call American Home Shield because Perry was not going to come out to fix anything.

At that point, it was the 26th or 27th of December and I called American Home Shield again. I stayed on the phone for two hours waiting for a representative because my call with the first representative whom I waited an hour for got disconnected. She never called me back. Then, I had to wait another hour and fifteen minutes until I got another girl. When I spoke to her, I told her everything that was going on and she told me that she requested some feedback from the electrician which told me that all they needed was to hook the heat pump back up and my unit would be fine again. Apparently, that electrician never sent any paperwork to American Home Shield. The girl said she was waiting for that feedback and she was going to get her supervisor to look into the matter.

It's cold again in Florida and I'm petrified of putting the heat on because I do not know what's going to happen to my house. I haven't heard back from the investigation which was supposed to have been gone almost a month ago. I looked at my AHS account to see if there was a status order open but then I looked in My Key and saw that Perry Mechanical had a work order which they completed on my heat pump. They had one for the 31st of August stating that my air conditioner was finished with a reference number for that. They also had another work order on the 3rd of September stating that they worked on my heat pump and that was completed. That had a different reference number also. Before Perry Mechanical worked on my AC unit to replace the compressor, I had no problems with my heat and my air. Ever since they touched it, I've had no heat.

So, I called American Home Shield last night, waited for 48 minutes to get somebody and explained to them that their service was unacceptable. They told me to call the authorization department to see what was going on. The representative told me that she called Perry Mechanical to come back out. However, when I looked this morning to see if there was an active order, I didn't see one. This has been going on since September and I'm going in February and I still don't have heat.

I’m pleased with American Home Shield's work. I went online to submit claims and the website was user-friendly, so that was nice. However, there’s a bit of delay getting someone here and the contractors are coming from a distance which is sort of abnormal. Nevertheless, they did a good job. And then, the locksmith was great. I had someone redo the locks and then, paid in addition. They also had a lock replaced entirely and had the keypad put in. Another is when I had a toilet that got broken and that one was a weird toilet. It wasn't quite right in terms of the flushing mechanism. We ordered parts and brought it back. All of that was out of the plumber's control, but then he fixed the flush and it works.

I’m learning about what AHS covers and what it doesn’t. My pipes also froze this last week. I looked it up but AHS doesn’t cover that. That’s not something that makes sense for them to have to cover. So there should be more transparency especially with the service and with all this information. And AHS sent me six pages on what they cover and what they don’t, which is really helpful with the home warranty if someone is new at this thing. They kept saying service fee but they never told me once what it was. So I had to go and find it.

I called about another issue that I was hoping they would cover and it was something that was a pre-existing condition. But I did not know it was broken. And so it was upsetting to me to find out that AHS was not going to cover. I thought it was just a knob for a shower, but the whole plumbing had to be torn out and redone. But other than that, I’m glad I have AHS as this is an old home. And who knows what’s going to show up in a year. I've called them three times and two times were good.

We tried to turn on the air conditioning unit and it wasn’t warming out the house. But we didn’t know that it was because maybe the weather wasn’t so hot. It was kind of difficult to identify. So finally we realized we had a problem with that. So the contractors AHS sent arrived at the home and they diagnosed the problem and figured out there were some leaks in two valves.

After they fixed the valve they started putting Freon. And they sort of figured it out that there was still not enough pressure. And they found out that in the condenser there was another valve that they had to replace and they replaced the second one. They put Freon on it there and the pressure started holding. I filed that claim online and it was quick. The website was really user-friendly.

There was a second appointment that was needed. And the reason for that is that the valve that was leaking was like a standard valve so they just replaced something that they had in the truck. And when they realized when they started putting Freon, the other one was not holding. The other one is product specific so we had to call for the part and they came in maybe a week. But they actually called me back like, two days after that. When the part arrived they went right away and fixed it.

And I was one of those customers that annoy the contractor. I’m always following them and asking them questions. And they never got mad. They always answered the questions and fixed the problem. But everything’s cold here. We’re still in the winter cycle so we haven’t turned in the air conditioning. So what really worries me is that supposed there was a repair that wasn’t done correctly and Freon is leaking. I would not know until we need to turn on the air conditioning.

It may take months for one of those leaks to manifest and what sucks is the warranty is for 60 days. But AHS were really quick and not intrusive. I really like the service. The nightmare situation for people was that when the problem happened, they discover something and they have to wait for parts maybe weeks while it’s really hot. So my situation was kind of different because I could have survived as mainly opening the windows. Like what we were doing in those days. So at least in this cold, the part came in two days waiting and we were not dying of heat. So the experience was good.

I was having trouble with the toilet in the powder room. In filing a claim with American Home Shield, my preference is to talk to a human being but it's a very long wait when you call in to them. Also, when I go online, I'm never sure if the claim gets entered. But this time when I submitted my claim on their website, it worked out really well, so I appreciated their online process. I got an email response from American Home Shield and they gave me the name and the phone number of that person that they had assigned my claim to. They said he would be calling and he did. The contractor responded right away and I told him I worked 10 minutes away from my house, so we set a time that was convenient for both of us. I asked him if he could please call me when he was within about half an hour away from showing up at my house, so I wouldn't be waiting excessively long, and he did that.

The first part that he replaced was the correct part and it was new. He was trying to save money and I get that he was just doing the repair that was needed, but apparently, the toilet needed a more involved repair with replacement of another piece of the assembly. So he came back again to do that. It was a minor issue though and everything is perfect now. He was so sweet, professional, and very accommodating. Truthfully, if I were to hire a plumber not through American Home Shield, I would recommend him. He was a nice guy who did a great job.

I'd recommend American Home Shield, too. I've had my policy since I bought my house 16 years ago. My realtor recommended it and since then, I've had a lot of stuff replaced and repaired in the house. Within the first six months after I moved in, the hot water heater went out. Then I had a problem with the furnace and they came out for that. The dishwasher has been repaired a couple of times as well and I'm waiting for it to die. The dryer has been repaired twice, too, and I've had a couple of plumbing repairs. A few years ago, the original air conditioner died and they came out and replaced it beautifully.

I've been very happy with every single workman that American Home Shield has sent out. And even if I just need a repair, I'd much rather call them and get that repairman to come out because I know he'd been vetted and that person’s not going to rip me off. I can trust the repair person to do the right thing and not do more than he needs to or not tell me I need stuff that I really don’t, which some unethical people would do. If I picked somebody out of the phonebook, I could get repairs that weren't necessary or get overcharged. So I'm real happy with American Home Shield as a service.

Our heater was just blowing cold air and the contractors that American Home Shield sent fixed it and did a great job. They had to replace four different parts. The contractor had to make a couple of trips out to get the parts because there were a couple of parts that are not regularly carried on a service truck. What was really good was that was right before the weekend when it was gonna get down to four degrees. We were hoping the whole furnace didn't go out and there would be a hard time getting them by the weekend. But the people came in and even gave us some expedited services because my wife has some health problems and got it taken care of right away. Everybody that comes out here has been great. Really polite, very professional, caring and wanted to make sure that the job gets done. I tell everybody that they should get it American Home Shield they've got a house as old as ours. I have them in three of our properties.

American Home Shield is hit or miss and in my recent claim, the vendor they provided was very good. But the first time I used them, it was very bizarre. It was very hard communicating with the vendor and I had to keep hammering to get what I wanted to be done. I had to call him a couple of times so it was strange but he ended up getting it all going. At first, I filed my claims on the phone which was a huge pain and so, the second time. I did it online. The second vendor was very much on the ball, responded right away and came the next morning on a Saturday. The other told us they had 24 hours to get to us and they’ll call us so it depends on the vendor you get. I'm in my second year and I may not renew it for another year. It works and it is what it is but I've heard of other companies that do better.

I have had some problems with American Home Shield. Trying to contact these people is a nightmare. You can be on the phone and they'll have you on hold forever. But once you made contact, as far as the claim, then everything progresses well. I tried to work with AHS on several things, and I still got one item up in the air. Also, with my experience in the last month, they have made mistakes. I've had two different people out here, one for my water heater and another for my dishwasher, and they claim that I owe them $100. And I paid both of them and hopefully, have this resolved. I'm just waiting to get a confirmation that I owe them nothing now.

My dishwasher is still up in the air because the guy who came out for that was going to see if he could actually repair it, and I found out that he was not able to repair it. So American Home Shield needs to replace it, and it has been up in the air since December. American Home Shield got a way to go to improve. Communication is the whole key and there is, virtually, no communication. I'm considering canceling them and I'm looking for somebody else.

Our garage door opener went out, and the repair guy sent by American Home Shield had to come back twice. He put in something but then it wouldn’t work after that either. So he came back the next day. And he was very fast. We also had our heat pump go out, and our experience was good as well. The contractor also had to come back out twice. We had a house full of smoke and my husband was here by himself and he’s kind of disabled. And so he called the local fire department and they came out and said it was from the heat pump. The guy sent by AHS came out and he put in something. But when we turned it on that same day, we smelled the same odor like plastic burning, and smoke came in the master bedroom. He came back the next day and put another part. The service was good on both times. The repair guys did a good job, and they were both clean, neat, and professional.

Prior to that, I just called AHS and left a message. And then the repair company called me back and set an appointment. I’ve been really pleased with American Home Shield. I know that they’re busy and really service-oriented. And I worked for a heat, air and major appliance company several years ago and they were a service company for American Home Shield, so I know what they’re about.

American Home Shield is really good. Appointments are actually set up in a good, timely manner and they are prompt in returning emails. When the dryer broke, my wife sent the email in the morning and she got one by the afternoon. When the dryer went out, we got information from my wife's cousin who worked with appliances for a while. So we thought the problem was the dryer and when the contractor first came out, we got the dryer fixed. But it went out again after five loads. We found out that the problem was not the dryer because we don't have it plugged into the vent in the wall. The same person came out and he was very helpful. He also said that he has always wanted to follow up with people that he was working with instead of having somebody else come out, which we appreciate.

We've had three claims within the same time period. I'm in the military so I left for deployment early last year then when I came home, some of the appliances weren't working. They had not been used in a while and it was no big deal. First, it was the dishwasher so I was doing the dishes by hand but we were making it work. Next was the refrigerator and that was kind of a game-changer. It went out almost two weeks before Thanksgiving. I called American Home Shield and they said they would send out a technician. Then two days after that, the front panel of the washer and dryer combination gave out. We couldn't start it. I called the home warranty company again and they said they would send somebody out.

The first guy showed up, took a look at the washer and dryer and said they would order parts and it would be good to go. The second guy showed up and checked the dishwasher. He said they would order parts and left. The third guy came out and said he knew what was wrong with the refrigerator but it was under warranty. So he was going to call American Home Shield back and let them know that Sears needed to come out and take a look at it. The week before Thanksgiving, I had a bird that was slowly thawing in my freezer as well as produce that was obviously not going to last because it had to be refrigerated. And the wife was ever so eagerly getting slightly annoyed at the fact that it still was not fixed. So I called American Home Shield the second time.

They told us Sears was supposed to be reaching out to us set up an appointment. Two more days went by and it was the week of Thanksgiving. My wife called Sears asking where we were at and why we hadn't got an appointment, and Sears responded with, "What appointment?" I made the phone call to American Home Shield and said that there may be a miscommunication but it needed to be fixed immediately. They said, "Well, it's the holidays." They were damn right it was the holidays and they waited almost three weeks to fix an issue. They could've turned around and told the technician to fix it whether the unit's in warranty or not and called it a day.

The refrigerator is still having an issue because the refrigerator side stays cool but the very base of the freezer doesn't stay below freezing. Case in point, I have some popsicles that I keep at the very bottom of the refrigerator for the summertime and they don't stay frozen. I called American Home Shield back and told them that I don't know what they were trying to run but it was the worst service I had ever received out the three home warranty companies I've used. But I had not had any issues previously like this with American Home Shield. At first I chalked it up to maybe it's not necessarily American Home Shield. Maybe it's the technicians that are coming out. But then I looked at the technicians that were coming out and they were the same technicians that other home warranty companies have also sent out and they had fixed issues for us with no problem.

We've worked with the repair technician that they sent out and we love the guy to death. He's a great guy and a great technician. He did his damnedest to bring our last refrigerator back to life. He was very informative and professional the entire time. I've got two small kids and animals running around and he moved with the punches and he was good. That being said, the technicians American Home Shield had sent out have been flawless.

The technician said that the refrigerator needs coolant but that it's under warranty and that Sears will come out and fix it. So if that was the case and American Home Shield said they would come out and fix it, then that should've been the case. But they didn't say that. They turned around and said it's not under warranty but the repair technician could fix it. If that was the case, then why did the technician not come back out and fix it? This could've been solved because the refrigerator needed coolant and that was it. It was so simple as far as connecting a charge line, charging the system and making sure it works. It could've been fixed in a matter of 10 minutes. It went to the point where I went out and purchased a deep freezer just to be able to work with the kinks of this other refrigerator. Because they were unsuccessful in fixing the gripes in a timely manner.

There had been no follow-up either. For me as a consumer, that tells me they don't care about their client base. If they can't deliver the product that they founded their entire company on, then what kind of a company are they really running? I was very annoyed at the fact that that's what the service industry has come to. I called their customer support and I got on the phone with a young woman who then proceeded to argue with me after I've already forwarded them all the information directly from the technician. She told me that it was my own problem to get a hold of Sears. But they were saying that it's not under warranty so why should I have to get a hold of Sears? They were contradicting themselves on, not one end, but both ends.

I once sent a nasty graymail to some of their executives saying that they weren't holding true to their contract and that they might want to look into it. The next thing I knew, I had technicians knocking on my door, a little within a 24-hour period. It was interesting how that worked. All of the sudden, they wanted to jump through hoops for me.

On the other hand, the technician they sent out for the washer and dryer was very informative. He told us down to the nuts and bolts. He told us about an issue we're going to run into now and a risky issue we're going to run into six months from now. I asked why and he said it was because these things are not well designed. But he also told me that we were going to have to unstack the unit but he didn't have anybody here with him who could unstack it so we were going to have to unstack it for him.

But nowhere in the service contract does it require the owner of a piece of equipment any physical limitation or a requirement to have to unstack anything. Technicians are supposed to be able to come into the household and work on a piece of equipment in the current condition it operates in. So why is it then that they were telling me I have to go out and find somebody to come unstack this thing and do it? On top of that, it was either they were going to unstack it at their convenience or it was not going to happen. Those were the only options they gave us. Despite that, the washer works properly now. One out of the three had been successful in restoring it back to fully operational.

The third work order we had in was for the dishwasher and when they came in initially, the dishwasher wasn't operable. It wouldn't close all the way or sometimes it would close all the way and it would operate properly but sometimes it wouldn't. They replaced some parts and now, only the bottom half of the dishwasher works. Still, it's better than where were at before.

There were also a couple of different supervisors we'd talked to and I talked to this woman who said that she would give us a phone call back the next morning to give us a status update that we knew what was going on. I said that we just needed a little bit of communication so we would know what was going on. I said that if it was not going to need a fix, that was fine but to let me know in advance. I could go out and make other accommodations for the turkey. All I wanted from them was a little bit of professional courtesy. Not only did I not get a phone call back, but three days later, after the holidays when their offices were finally open, I finally got a hold of her and she proceeded to argue with me on the status of the ticket. I was like, "This is a joke, right? I talked to you 96 hours ago and you knew what you were supposed to do." And I said that while all of their phone calls are recorded for quality assurance, they were not the only one.

American Home Shield is dealing in an industry where literally 100% of their clients is based off of customers 'cause customers are going to call in and say something is wrong and they need help. That means their sole revenue is through customer support. It's their service and they failed, not on one issue, but on three separate issues that they sent out three technicians for. And every step along the way, I had nothing but headaches and grief. And the result wasn't satisfactory. After the third time, I decided I was done with this and I was over American Home Shield. When the consumer no longer wants to use their products, they have failed as a company.

I looked at this thing and evaluated to get to the root of the problem, and every step along the way, American Home Shield had dropped the ball. They just didn't cooperate, which is more frustrating than anything else. I'm at the point now, where not only will I not use their services anymore, but I’ve printed our whole conversation and I've already forwarded all the supporting information to my attorney.

I told him that these guys are not delivering what it is they're supposed to be doing. It went to the extent that I pulled the contract that they had signed electronically and the legal staff was said if they're not delivering on their end and they're not conforming to the terms of their agreement, I shouldn't pay them anymore. But of course, every month I get bills and at this point in time, it's a nuisance. Because if I terminate the contract, I'm going to get bills regardless, 'til the end of that period. And until all three of these tickets are resolved, I still have to pay them and that's even further headache.

I'm almost tempted to go back to the original home warranty company that I got when I moved into the house. Because they sent up the same technicians and when there was an issue or they had a status update, they would call us. That's the level of customer service I can respect. With American Home Shield, there were a whole lot of headaches. The wife was not happy by any stretch of the imagination and she was pretty furious the week of Thanksgiving dinner.

Sometimes you hear horror stories about home warranties but my experience with them was fantastic. Having a warranty on our property on some years would be extremely valuable and I’ll be thankful I have it, and some years I may not make a claim. But from my experience thus far, it's been well worth it. The pricing was at par with everyone else and the interaction and communication were fantastic.
