I have been a loyal customer of American Home Shield for a number of years. Several weeks ago I was doing some home remodeling, re-tiling a bathroom floor, and moved the toilet out-of-the-way. Afterwards I noticed the toilet flange had rusted and deteriorated and it had to be replaced. Since I have coverage I contacted American Home Shield to have a plumber come in for repairs. The plumber was dispatched, and in a matter of three minutes said he could not do repairs because the sub floor needed to be repaired first. He immediately left.
I contacted another plumber for a second opinion on the problem. He informed me of a part that I could purchase at the hardware store that would resolve the issue. I purchased the part, a flange extension, and after the tile work was finished I put the flange extension in and reinstalled the toilet myself. I contacted American Home Shield to ask them if they would consider reimbursing me the $75 service call fee since it was a local contractor and he literally was there for three minutes and stated he could not do the repair. I understand sometimes the customer service representative does not have authorization for refunds.
I asked to speak with a customer service supervisor and was denied numerous times. I was told that since I moved the toilet myself I broke the toilet and negated the warranty. I tried explaining several times the toilet was okay and it was the flange on the pipe (plumbing that was covered) that was the culprit and not the toilet. It seems to me that if there is a complaint from a customer and it cannot be resolved by the usual methods then speaking with the customer service supervisor would be warranted.
The representative made it clear that the supervisor did not wish to speak with me. I originally wanted to leave a review on the American Home Shield website after I was unable to speak with the supervisor and there was no contact information to email anyone or leave a number to have somebody contact me. Therefore I am placing this on the Consumer Affairs site to let others know of the problems and difficulties I have encountered with this company.
I understand your concerns with the toilet service claim that has been delayed. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

We had some ceiling fan issues and we submitted our claim to AHS over the phone. The claims rep was good and our conversation was clear. The tech came out within a day and he was really cool. He was actually really cool. Since the repair the ceiling fan has been working really well. Having a home warranty is very valuable because I get peace of mind. I would recommend AHS and I would tell friends to go ahead and inquire. The warranty covers what they say on the contract.

I've had the American Home Shield warranty on more than one home that I've had and I always feel like they pull a bait and switch. I had a hot water tank in my last home and it failed. It was a catastrophic failure. It says in their warranty that they'll replace it with a similar type of tank but they did not honor that because the size was a little bit bigger. It wasn’t the standard size which was a 50-gallon tank and which for the size of the home, wasn’t sufficient. It needed to be 65 or 75. That was also the working condition given by the plumber that American Home Shield contracted out. But AHS said, “No, we're not going to do that. You can do a 50-gallon tank and just turn up the temperature above 130 degrees Fahrenheit."
Anybody who's ever read anything about a hot heater tank knows that it's never supposed to go above 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not safe especially for someone like myself who have young children in the home because if you jack up the heat on it, that should be sufficient for your home. The plumber was honest with me and told me that what American Home Shield was doing was unsafe, unethical, and frankly, illegal and he strongly recommended to them not to do that, but that was all they were going to honor. I appreciated his honesty in dealing with me but they still wouldn’t budge. They gave me a partial credit and only paid a portion of it.
Also, I had a specialized refrigerator in my last home because my home was a custom-home and they were like, “We can't find anybody to come out to service your refrigerator. You can find somebody and then we'll authorize it." They put the onus on me to find somebody to come out and service it. They wouldn’t even bother to try and find somebody. I lived in a place called Bellingham, Washington and the closest person I could find was near Seattle which was an hour and a half away.
Then, I had some issues on the faucets and they only covered a partial credit for it even though they said they were going to cover it. I've also had two plumbing issues in this house that I live in now because it's an older home and that’s part of the reason why I continue to maintain my warranty with them even though I don’t like them. There was an issue with the toilet leaking and they came out and the one guy took apart one of my toilets and he left without fixing it. So, it was leaking but whatever he had done to it to not put it back together, it made it inoperable until he came back the next day. Their fixes are kind of iffy depending on who they have. The people seemed pleasant enough that they bring out but I can't speak to their competency.
I had some issues with a plumber here in my existing home who came out and fixed some stuff recently. It worked the second he left, but then when I did it the next time, it wasn’t working. And I spent 55 minutes on hold trying to get a hold of somebody. They hung up on me and then, I called back and at the 52-minute mark, again, they hung up on me.
In an email that I got from American Home Shield, it said, “If you have issues with the work that we just provided, contact the company directly." I called the company that came out directly and they were like, “No, I'm sorry. You have to speak to them directly.” They were able to provide me with a back number to call. I called on a Monday for service and American Home Shield said, “The soonest we can get somebody out to your house is Friday.” I was expecting not to have a kitchen sink to be able to use from Tuesday until Friday and they don’t see that as an issue at all.
I called back this company directly and I said, “They told me that you can't come out ‘til Friday. I don’t understand since you were able to come out within 24 hours to fix the problem the first time.” And they said, “No. American Home Shield is incorrect. They just scheduled it for you for Friday, they didn’t contact us directly, they just put it on their calendar and they didn’t try and get it scheduled immediately and we'll be out there tomorrow.” The company was out here Tuesday which was great. I thought, “Fantastic. Maybe they’ve changed because I've moved state."
Any time you have to try and contact them over the phone, you spend at least an hour on hold trying to get somebody on the phone. It's a huge time-waster. I honestly believe that they do that so people will give up and not call them because it has always happened to me whenever I have to call them. I absolutely despise AHS because they take your money and even if it's in writing, they don’t honor it. Pretty much every experience I've ever had with them has been a major headache.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I've had several claims with American Home Shield and the most recent one was for my dishwasher. It wouldn't drain. I called the folks who had been out to do the work before and told them I was having the same problem. They said I should call American Home Shield. I tried to call but I couldn't get an answer so I submitted the claim online. Then they told me that somebody else was going to do it.
It was a different company and I told them I was not sure if they were the ones coming out because it should be the company that came out and did the work before. I finally got a hold of somebody at American Home Shield and they said I was still within the period where they would come back out and fix it and they were not gonna charge me anything. The tech came out and he was fine but didn't tell me a whole lot. He fixed the problem, turned around and headed out. Overall, American Home Shield is really receptive. I've had good experiences with them and I'm going to re-up my contract before it expires in June.

The heater would not start. I called American Home Shield to submit the claim and I told the rep the problem I was having with the heating. She said the service was going to call me to make an appointment. The claims reps were very good and really helpful. The contractor called to make an appointment and they were here on time. The tech had to change the starter and he fixed the heater, and I was a very happy camper. He did an excellent job and the heater’s working perfectly right now. My experience with that heating claim was really great.
But I have a little complaint with the previous service that I had. I ended up with no electricity in a part of my house, so I called the service and the guy came, checked, and he fixed the issue in one of the outlets on the wall. He left a mess in there but I said that I'd clean it up myself. But when I went to bed, I noticed that the ceiling fan in my bedroom was turned on and I could not turn it off. So, I called the company and they said that they were going to send the service guy back to fix it. He came two days after. It was winter and it was really cold in December. I told him that he left me for two days with the ceiling fan going on on top of my bed and I had to put three blankets on my bed because it was freezing.
The service guy said that the fan wasn't working and had to be changed. My fan cost $500 and it wasn’t a cheap fan. I've been living in the house for two years and that fan never had a problem. I told him that the problem was with the controller that has a little box inside. I had a problem with another fan and all the techs did to repair it was to change the little box inside. He didn't like that and what he did was cut the cable. He only had to to change the box or install it the right way.
When the service guy left the ceiling fan going on, it might have busted, and now the fan is not working and it's only the light that’s working. Although the fan didn't need to be fixed right away during winter, when summer comes I’ll be needing it because it's on top of my bed. I mainly use the fan because it's cheaper and I don't need that much air conditioning in my house. I'm going to have to call the service to come and fix the fan, and I'm going to have to pay another $75. But I don't want that service guy in here because he is not clean. He should not get upset because I told him that I didn't want to change the fan, which was working, and he only had to change the box. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I recommended them to a friend a few years ago and he's using them too.

The icemaker was leaking and it was making giant ice cubes. I called American Home Shield and going through their voicemail was hell. They make it almost impossible to submit a claim over the phone. So I did it online and they sent me an email saying that they got my claim and someone would be contacting me. Then the contractor contacted me the next day which was really quick.
When he came out, he looked at the icemaker and said that it was cracked. He said he had to order a part and that it was going to take two weeks to get it. He was really friendly and said that the part was going to be delivered to my house. He knew when the part was going to get here and he scheduled the appointment the following day. Since the repair, the icemaker is working fantastic. I've recommended American Home Shield to my son because he just bought a house. They could lower their prices, though.

My garbage disposal wasn’t working. It was just humming and wouldn’t grind up anything. It was just dead. A technician came out a day later and he was fine. He took care of the problem and the performance of the garbage disposal has been fine since the repair. I was satisfied with American Home Shield and having a warranty on one’s property is important because you never know what’s going to go wrong. I would tell my friends to use American Home Shield.

American Home Shield does a good job and seems to be a lot more efficient. I was with a different company at one time and it took me about two weeks to get a water heater. It wasn’t very convenient because we had to go to our neighbors to take a bath. We're with American Home Shield now for over a year and they've done very well so far.
When my microwave door got cracked and the handle was broken, I called them to file a claim. The techs they sent were very nice and professional. The first tech who came out to repair the handle arrived no more than a couple of days after I submitted the claim. He decided that it couldn’t be repaired so he put a claim in for a new door. But, they didn’t have the parts anymore for the microwave so we ended up getting a new one. Everything's fine since then. I've mentioned a couple of times to a couple of neighbors that American Home Shield is good and I would certainly recommend them. I wouldn’t go without having the warranty because things break and it costs a lot of money to replace everything.

Our washer malfunctioned and flooded the house, so we had to have the technicians come out and look at the washer. My wife submit a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. We had a great experience with the contractor that came out. He fixed everything up and explained to us what the issues were. This contractor was very thorough and he went through every possible scenario that could have caused the issue. He went above and beyond in trying to figure out what the issue was and in correcting all the issue. Everything has been working great and we haven't had any issue since the repair. But this is the first time that we've actually had a good contractor sent out by American Home Shield. A lot of times before, the contractors they sent out just said that everything looked good. The experience with our washer claim helped me change my opinion of American Home Shield.

We've submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for plumbing and electrical. It was seamless and easy and their website was clean. It took about a day or two for the technicians to come out, per schedulability. We chatted with the electrician and he did great, while the plumber just went in and took pictures of things and said he had to go back and submit claims. It was a great experience with AHS and I would recommend them to others. For people that don’t prepare for repairs, having a warranty is very valuable for not having to pay something upfront real quick. AHS is easy to work with, easy claim filing and the entire process is simple.

I had some issues with the water flow. I submitted a claim online and it seemed to work fine. The timeframe for American Home Shield to get back with me was good. I was with one of the other main competitors of American Home Shield for years and I had something that happened where I had to go out of the network because I had a garage door that literally would not close and it was stuck half-open. I was able to get a service three days earlier than they could get me one here locally. They just refused to pay the claim so I was done with them.
With American Home Shield, they sent a plumber out and he did a fine job. He checked all the various things that I had for what turned out to be a water heater problem. A PVC pipe inside the heater had actually disintegrated to the point where they were clogging up the lines and he discovered that and got it fixed. It was a surprise to me. I didn’t realize that that was a contributing issue. He was excellent. After the repair, everything was like it should be. American Home Shield is not the cheapest in town but they purport to do what I needed to be done.

The dishwasher stopped working. I went online to submit the claim and the whole thing was easy and great. At first, AHS sent out a plumber to look at the dishwasher but he said that it was an electrical problem. So, AHS sent out an electrician. They called but my father passed away the week that they wanted to send somebody out. They called for three weeks until they got it set up. They were great. The electrician who came out was really good. Apparently, there was an issue with the electrical box under the sink and he fixed it. The plumber was a little grump but if I was the plumber I’d be a little drop too grump too. I would certainly consider renewing my contract with AHS. If somebody would ask me, I would say to go ahead and get an insurance especially when you move into a new place because you wouldn’t know what’s going to break down.

My furnace quit working on Christmas Day. I went online and submitted a claim and a contractor came out the next day. The unit got fixed but then it stopped working again. I called AHS and told them that I needed the guy back. He came back and replaced the circuit board and it blew out the thermostat as well. Something happened again where I had to have them come back. It was a different error code on the troubleshooting. It ended up being a total waste of money on my part. But I'm very pleased with AHS. They would save you so much money in the long run and I don't think I could survive without a home warranty. I don’t have extra money laying around for big, huge expenses so it's been a lifesaver. In fact, my son is getting ready to buy a house and I'm like, "Do not even consider buying a house without getting a home warranty."

Our Jenn-Air trash compactor locked up and quit running. When the tech that AHS sent came out, he ordered a part and put it on. Then the trash compactor started clicking when it was going up and down. We called back and a different guy came out. He took it apart more and put some grease on it. But he never eliminated the click. He warned us that American Home Shield usually doesn’t cover noises and told me when he left here that he was going to turn in parts to replace certain things on there. He thought it would eliminate the clicking and that it’d run smoother. It was vibrating and looked like an old washing machine. However, he never got back with me on that.
The first couple of days, it was just a slight click. About a week into it, it got louder. Then finally, it broke again and we could hear something breaking in there. We called AHS and they sent the tech out again. He was going to check prices and replace a certain thing in there. He was going to get it authorized to order it and replace it if he could. Then he got it put back together and it is working now, but it's still clicking. When he left, he said he was going to check with his buddy to see if he knows why it’s still doing what it’s doing. The tech has been here for other products and he has been fine. We just have a little bit of trouble now and I don’t think he’s as knowledgeable about a trash compactor as he needs to be. There are not many of them out here anymore.
All in all, my claim for the trash compactor has not been 100% resolved and I don't want to sneak out until this thing is fixed right. But this is the only thing I can remember that AHS hasn’t solved on the first service since they were able to get 99% of the stuff in my house fixed. I'd tell friends that if they didn’t have a lot of cash on hand, AHS would be good. We’re retired and we can do it. It’s easier and convenient for us to pay the $100 and get the issue solved.

We’ve had several claims with American Home Shield and the only plumbing issue that we have had was for the whirlpool tub. They fixed it and it worked. But a week later, it didn’t. So I crawled up under there and re-plugged in what they had shown me to plug in, and so far, it’s still working. Hopefully, it continues as I don’t want to pay another $75. We usually file the claim by phone and the process was fine. But it has been a little confusing as far as how we were supposed to do it and I wasn’t sure whether the claim would be about the plumbing versus electrical as far as the whirlpool, but we got that straight. Also, it was confusing whether or not we were supposed to make the appointment or they were. Nonetheless, AHS is a good deal and I think my friends should do it too.

We made a claim with American Home Shield for the AC. My father read the instructions and there were three fuse boxes. He didn’t know that there were three. He checked two of them and the third one just needed to be reset. A technician came out, and if I or my father had known that there was a third box, we wouldn't have called them. It would have saved me $70. I was there when my father called on the initial claim and it went all right, but he's ready to cancel his service. AHS only pays for $10 worth of Freon and that really upset him. If Freon went up, we're still paying the insurance. He said the insurance ought to cover the cost of the Freon and $10 of Freon is less than a pound.
On the other hand, the technician was fine. He told me it was $100 a pound and that AHS would only cover $10. I'm glad I didn’t need any Freon. However, I'm dissatisfied with AHS right now because my air conditioner is as old as this house and so I'm going to have some problems with it sooner or later. I took the insurance years ago because of the air conditioner. But still, we've had icemaker problems too and the experiences for those claims were great. When I first got AHS, they didn’t cover icemakers. But four years later, icemakers began to get covered, and that's when mine went out.
I understand your concerns with the service fee that was paid to resolve the AC issue as well as the projected freon on that were not paid. I would be glad to speak with you in regard to your experience

I see mixed reviews online but for us, we've never had an issue with American Home Shield. We've enjoyed our time with them. We're considering renewing with them but the only thing is the annual price. We wish it was cheaper for what we're getting. I have been with American Home Shield for two years and for the most part, everything has been going well except for a couple of things. They proposed a new price for my second year and it was very much higher than what the previous year was. So I negotiated a different rate and it took forever for them to put it in their system because I kept getting these I’ve not paid in full responses back from American Home Shield. When I call them, they tell me that it’s paid in full. Then I would get another call months later saying that I’m not paid in full. I had to spend a lot of time on the phone which was very frustrating. It took about five calls over about five months to get that cleared up.
I got the first invoice then everything else was just over the phone. I told them to give me an invoice so we have a paper trail of what they were charging and what I’m paying for. But they said that they're not going to send me another invoice. So it was a little on the sly and I was just taking their word for it. I don’t know if what I’m paying for will show up and be paid in full. It would have been much better if they would have just followed up with a couple of paperwork.
Also, my water heater needed replacement and the repair folks that American Home Shield sent on site looked for ways to add to their bill. I had two of my water heaters replaced, one on one month then the other one went out about a month later. The last time, they said that there were some rust around the valve and that they were recommending that the valve be replaced. I looked at the valve and I did not see any rust around it. But I had them replace it because my feeling was that American Home Shield would somehow try to get out of making future repairs if that wasn’t repaired. It looked like a valve that was about 10 years old. I felt like they were just trying to upsell and they got me because they were there under the warranty.

A few months ago, I started noticing the basement being damp in areas where I could see black mold build up on pieces of wood. The shower in there is leaking, too. I called American Home Shield, I told them the problem, and they said that they’d send somebody out. Then a plumbing company called and I explained the problem to them. They said that it sounded like it may be a foundation issue and that they didn’t handle that. He said he'd speak to his supervisor and call me back but nobody called me back. So I called AHS again, explained the exact same thing, and they sent another plumber out.
I explained the same things with the next company and their man was here for 30 seconds. He said that they didn’t cover those sort of issues and I got charged $75 anyway. But I clearly explained to AHS exactly what the issue was and for them to send out a company that had nothing to do with that particular issue and still charge me was absolutely lunatic. It was a complete waste of my $75. So, my basement is still leaking and I still can’t use my basement shower. I have seven people in my home sharing one bathroom shower upstairs and if I go to use my basement shower, water leaks into my laundry area. Then when it rains, half the basement completely gets soaked. It’s probably a foundation issue which happened three times already and AHS doesn’t cover that.
I also had a claim for my heater when it wasn’t working. That was covered and the tech they sent out said that they could get it temporarily working but that there was a crack in the heat exchange. They said that it would take two weeks to order the part then they took months to respond and I had to call back. But when the contractor came back out, he told me that there was nothing wrong with the heater and I was good to go. So my experience with AHS has been an awful. Majority of the issues that are going to go along with a new home are probably not going to be covered and it’s kind of a roll of a dice if it’s covered or not.

He's a very personable guy and knew what he was doing. He said that the issue just didn't make sense and that the refrigerator shouldn’t do that. He had to call Samsung and get a new catalog. He put a new thing in and it still dripped. When we came in during the morning, there was water all over the floor. The guy said he had the manual for the 16 model and ours was a 17, so they didn’t match up.
The washing machine made so much noise that even the neighbors across the street could hear it. The contractors said that it was the part on the bottom that was causing it to make so much noise. They had some rubberized screws and it went from 100 loud noise to 50 and it has been better than it was. But we still don't like it. It's 25 years old and it just rolled over and died, but they couldn’t get the parts to fix it. They really should have replaced it with something a little higher, a mid-grade washer instead of the bottom grade one. But overall, we're very satisfied with American Home Shield.

My water had a rough color. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for that plumbing issue to get a technician to come out and that was very easy. I just logged on the computer and requested assistance, and then someone called me to set a service up. The reps that I have talked with have been very nice. Likewise, it felt very nice when the contractor came out. He was friendly and my dog didn't bother him. The technician said that I needed a new water heater.
But amazingly enough, even though I have this coverage, I still would have to come out of pocket for about $800 for that. I've been waiting for a phone call from American Home Shield because I said I couldn't afford to pay the $800 and they said that I could get the money that they would've paid the contractor to see if I could do this more cheaply, but they never called me back with that information. If it was clear that American Home Shield's warranty doesn't really cover much, people wouldn't pay for it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The water heater was leaking. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the website navigation was easy. I waited a couple of days for the technician to call me but he didn't, so I called him after a few days. When he came here, he showed me how to turn the gas whenever my heater goes out. He was nice, friendly, and helpful. The heater has been cut off and since then, everything has been going well. Having a warranty is very valuable because you spend a lot of money into your home already, trying to buy one and putting down money. So, it costs a lot more to come out of pocket versus having your warranty which makes everything a lot cheaper for you. American Home Shield is a really good investment and I'd let my friends know that I have it.

My washing machine was not working. I spoke with an American Home Shield representative over the phone and he was very nice. He sent somebody to fix it and they could not fix it in the long run. So, AHS gave me the money for it and I purchased one from Home Depot which was a little more expensive. Then, I sent them the paperwork and the check came in the mail. I'm still paying the extra but it's okay. I picked a better a machine. Also, it took a while but that was partly my fault because I come in and out of town and I've been traveling a lot lately. But other than that, AHS took care of it and I was very thankful for their work.
I have had AHS for about a year and I bought it for another property of mine as well. I've had a very good experience with them. They do what they say they're going to do. I've dealt with other companies that I've really had a horrible experience with. Some of these other companies say they're going to do stuff but there's always some darn issue with whatever it is. I appreciate the fact that AHS is not making excuses and sending somebody 17 times.
There is a time delay though where, unlike other companies, when you call to say there's an issue, AHS has to come to look at it. Then, they have to see if they could possibly order a part, then they have to call to see if it's okay. But I had a really good result this time. They showed up, they called and did it right all the time. Also, sometimes the contractors have been a little later to come than they said but it has been fine. They called before they came which I appreciate. I like having that 30-minute window because then I can rush home and run errands close by.
I tried to talk my mom into getting AHS. My mom has one more year with another company and after she's done with them, she's going to go with AHS. I'm retired now and AHS is a huge thing when something happens. I've also recommended this company to a few different people. AHS is the home warranty company that actually gets the job done and doesn't lie that it will take some time. But if you have the time and you can take off from work, it's worth it to have this company.
Sejal,
Thank you for so much feedback regarding your experiences. We are glad that you were able to upgrade to a better washer with assistance from American Home Shield - sounds like a good deal, even if you had to pay a little extra. Retirement is a time to relax and we are happy to help with the unexpected as you do so. We are eagerly awaiting your mom to come on board. Enjoy retirement!

There was a leak in the ceiling of my second storey and I called AHS to see what it was. The contractor they sent cut a hole in the ceiling, but he couldn't find the leak. It appeared to be coming from my grand bedroom, and so I had them change out the cartridge of the Moen faucet, thinking that would fix it. However, I had to call them back out because it was leaking again. It was leaking in the area where my washer and tub were and they had to fix that. They cut in from the ceiling again but AHS didn’t cover the work they had to do, so I had to pay the contractor $250 to go up in the ceiling and fix that leak. Then another company had to come out and close it up.
It was my first time using American Home Shield's service and I ended up paying $350 to get the leak fixed, which was a bit expensive. It was also a lot of wasted time. When you have somebody cut a hole open and they don’t come back out and fix it, and you have to wait until somebody else makes an appointment to come out, there are liability issues. I'm sure there's a reasoning why they do that, but it's not good for the customer. Also, I told American Home Shield to tell the other company that there were two holes, but they didn't. The guy came out and he thought he was closing up one. But everybody did what they were supposed to do. I'd highly recommend AHS. The response was excellent. Everybody I called and talked to on the phone was very helpful. They were very understanding and had the problem taken care of for me.

We haven't had an issue with the dryer since then. We've been with American Home Shield for almost 30 years and we've been very happy with them. We had a problem with our washer in January and before the AHS contractor came to fix that, a belt broke on the dryer. So the contractor came and they put a temporary belt on and they ordered some parts for the washer. They came back and they were supposed to put the final or the actual original belt on to the dryer and rebuild the transmission on the washer. However, we found out that they never replaced the belt because it broke again.
Also, they never repaired the spin cycle of the washer because it wasn’t taking enough water out. We had to take some of our clothes to my sister-in-law’s to wash or dry until they redid the repairs. They came back and corrected all these several weeks ago. They have gotten the correct belt for the dryer ordered and they rebuilt whatever part of the washer was supposed to be done originally. They did it correctly and everything has been okay since then. The communications to American Home Shield and to the local company that they worked with were all good. I called American Home Shield to check out something that occurred when Priority One, the company that does the heat pump check twice a year, found two capacitors low in the two-heat pump. I filed the claim last week and I'm waiting for the problem to be taken care of. The technician that took care of checking out the heat pump wrote up a detailed report of what was needed. And I don’t know whether he was going to submit that to American Home Shield but I told American Home Shield what was on the sheet. American Home Shield referred me to Priority One and they were supposed to call me but they haven't yet.
I've had the same technician pretty much all the time from Priority One and that has helped because that particular technician got to know my house and my units a little bit better. So far so good with Priority One. With American Home Shield, I like that they're usually responsive. This past time was an exception though. Since I have heat and so forth, it's apparently not an emergency. Also, sometimes I can call them if I'm not sure whether something is covered on my contract. If it's not, then I can do something else or use something else. Overall, they've sent out good technicians and within a reasonable period of time. I feel good that I can count on them not giving me a tough time or having trouble getting them there and following through.

I submitted my claim using American Home Shield's website. Trying to talk to a physical person at American Home Shield sometimes proves to be very difficult. You just try and try and all you get are recordings.
Nevertheless, this last group that worked on the furnace was outstanding and I would recommend them to anybody. They were very professional, outstanding and prompt. Moreover, they were willing to teach me about the system and took all the time they needed. John, the owner, would call when he was leaving and say that he'd be here in 15 minutes. I haven't had that kind of customer service from a vendor in a long time. Usually, contractors give a four-hour window but not them. If they said they were going to be there at 8:00, they'd be there. A lot of people work and if they take off work for a four-hour window, then the contractor doesn't show up, it’s difficult. I’ve had to use AHS three different times. Every time I called for American Home Shield's services it was right on. All the technicians that have come to my house have been responsible. They had done their job. Plus they had done the house clean depending what they did. It's a very good service. Recently I called the 1-800 number to submit my claim for my garbage disposal. AHS has a voicemail that takes all the information in. Then when you call there's an email to certify my appointment. The technician AHS sent, Michael, came here and replaced one of the switches that I have that connects to the garbage disposal. He was early but he waited until 8:00 anyways to do his job. He was very efficient. I'm the kind of person that like to see what they do. I was asking him questions about the job that he was performing and he was very willing to explain to me what I was looking at and what he was doing. He was perfect.
You need to have the home warranty because appliances go bad and when they go bad, you don’t have to worry about it if you have it. Most of my friends don’t have the program that I have. They have been changing their appliances. I told them one of my experiences that I have with my microwave that has an oven. The handle from the microwave came off so I called American Home Shield. The technician came over and he said, “We cannot repair this one. We're just going to give you a new microwave.” It didn’t cost me a penny and that microwave was about 16 years old. AHS has been servicing my refrigerator and my air conditioner. If I'm living here 20 years those appliances are going to go bad at some point. Like with my washer and dryer, when I have a problem, I call them and they come out and fix it. They’ve been working for me 20 years and I still have my washer and dryer. American Home Shield fixed it all.

Of course, this rule is not mentioned in my contract and I knew nothing about it - don't pay these people a dime can't depend on a total replacement.
Also, know if you need freon and permits you pay for those as well. $60.00 per unit of freon and I needed seven if they did the repair, of course; I knew nothing about and not in the contract. We have had our policy since we bought the house 3 and a half years ago. Every year our monthly invoice increases and we keep it, just in case we need it. We're now at $65+/month. I think our recent experience is only the second or third time we've used it. We paid our $125 deductible to come have a tech look at our washing machine. He said the basket was bad and needed to be replaced.
A week went by, we heard nothing. Called AHS and one person told us they ordered the parts but had no idea when we could expect to receive a resolution. She transferred us to the appliance replacement dept who said no, they won't repair but will replace the washer. We have a matching set so of course we wanted to make sure it would be replaced with the same model. They can't promise that, but would call us back in 24-48 hours with more info.
Another week went by, no call. I call in, sit on hold for 45 minutes, and am told our replacement needs manager review, and they'll call back in 24-48 hours. I said, "That's unacceptable, it's already been 2 weeks." She says, "Sorry. That's the best I can do." Another week goes by, no call. I call in AGAIN and this time told that I can't even speak with that dept because they're busy and someone will call me back in 24 hours. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A MONTH OF NO WASHING MACHINE! And of course AHS has already billed my card again for another month of the contract that we have... the one that they are not living up to. I am now going to call my credit card company and attorney to handle this. This company is a scam... RUN!!!

American Home Shield drags its heels a little bit and they’re slow. There was water in the bathroom and the floor smelled really bad. My wife called in and American Home Shield got the job done but it took a little longer than it should. During that time, we had people doing some work in the living room so we were okay with the delay. We also have more than one bathroom to use. But if it was the only bathroom in the house, then we would have been really upset with that. Maybe they were looking for the best price in the marketplace and if that was the case, I'm okay with that. But if that was not the case, they need to go a little faster with their work because we pay our bills to them on time. They should fix the problem and fix it on time.
On the other hand, Foster Plumbing did a fantastic job. They made sure that everything was done correctly and before they even started, they wanted to know if we were going to leave the carpeting and if we were going to put a new one in. Of course, the carpet was all smelly and we were going to put tile in the bathroom. In order to put the toilet in, that had to be done first. So we hired somebody to buy the tile and put it in. We paid for that ourselves and that was done. Then Foster came in and showed us exactly what they were going to do and how they were going to do it. After they were done, they went over their work. They brought us in and showed us exactly what they did, little by little. Then they asked us if we had any questions and if we were happy with everything we saw.

I contacted American Home Shield and then the people called me to schedule when to meet the AC guy. They sent me a text and an email saying they were on their way and they called me also. The guy was nice and on time. I told him what was wrong and then I showed him where my AC unit was. I live in the condo so he had to go in the rooms.
He saw the broken fan blade and fixed it to see if they could get another fan blade, which they did. He told me about the average time AHS would get back with the other part was two to three days. My AC unit was from the 1960's and the bracket of the motor fell off. What he did was he went to a motor place, welded the bracket on and put the fan blade on it. When he came back, it was like new. It worked. It was a great experience. He had also shown me how to put my unit on fan to keep the air circulating even though it's off. It was to keep me cool and comfortable until he came back. The contractor contacted us within 24-48 hours to let me know that they received the claim from American Home Shield and they scheduled the visit. I tried to send out some photos so he could pick up on the brand before getting here. But he could not really tell from the picture.
Their service technician came in, looked at it and saw what the problem was right away. He ran up to the local Home Depot and came right back and fixed it. He worked on the mechanism internally and changed the handle. I had another technician looked at that and told me that I was going to have to cut a hole through my closet wall. He said the whole mechanism of the shower was ruined and the backside of the shower runs into my master bedroom closet.
When the service technician sent by American Home Shield fixed it without doing that, I asked if my whole mechanism was ruined and he said that it was not, which means that the other people were just trying to get over on me and charge me for an additional thing that I didn't really need. I like the fact that the service technician was honest and he knows he had a reputation to uphold, putting themselves in with American Home Shield. He was also informative and quick.
It was a seamless process and everything is great now. For a week we all had to use my shower in the master bedroom. Now, allowing two fully operational bathrooms made it a little easier. The last time that we called, it was making noise for a few days so we turned it off so we didn’t have to listen to it. When the repair guy came out, the ice maker wasn’t making the noise. So, he took some pictures of it and sent it to AHS but I haven't heard anything so I'm just trying to give it some time and do what I have to.
I originally filed the claim online as it seemed to be the easiest way. And then, I saw who AHS dispatched the work order to so I called and they sent someone else out. I've always had good customer service from AHS. If I need something, they look at my contract. And if I don’t have a number, they would just come back. Their response was good which makes me feel like I would treat my customers.
AHS usually use professional contractors. The last contractor who came out was good and he explained what was wrong with the ice machine. But he couldn't do anything as it wasn’t making the noise but he looked at the pictures that he took. He explained to me the corrosion, and why it was corroding but they're always courteous. I've had other things besides the icemaker repaired from AHS and it has always been good to have it repaired. Everybody's happy. I've been pleased with AHS and I have referred them to a few of my friends. Because of being a hot water I knew that if I cut off the water to the house then it would keep running and it would burn up the water heater.
So that's what we did and then I placed the call to American Home Shield. It was about 10:00 or 11:00 that night. They sent after hours plumbing out. It was great that they could come out and at least get us tapped off in that area because of the electric bill and the water. They tried but they just could not technically identify the problem and they admitted that. I don't think the contractor was a bad company but they weren't the right one for me. I notified AHS but no one tried to problem solve it for me. So I had to go with a company outside of their network and I came out of pocket almost $400. American Home Shield refunded me my deductible, which I thought was good and that was the one thing I appreciated. But I don't think I'm going to use the warranty again. It was almost too much work on my end.

We needed a new soap dispenser for our dishwasher and filed a claim with AHS. We always do it over the phone since we're old school and like to hear a voice. The contractor did great and knew what he was doing. He had to order the part and then about 15 days later, he came by to put it on. It has been working great since then.

I like submitting a claim online to American Home Shield but I have to call in if it’s the air conditioner or the furnace because I only want one particular company helping me. I had six units with them. One set of people that American Home Shield sent messed up one of my units. Then a second group that they’ve sent to this particular unit didn’t mess it up but they didn’t tell the truth. It was a terrible ordeal and then AHS tried to give me the same people again on another unit. I never want to deal with those people again but AHS is still using them. Also, it really irritates me that I’ve been sitting on a phone for half an hour to wait for somebody to come to the phone which is ridiculous. I love AHS though and how they can get me serviced fast. Plus, their people are usually nice.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the air conditioner. A part juggled loose and was hitting the fan, so when I turn the AC unit on, all I got was this really loud clanking. The whole neighborhood heard it, so it was unusable. I've got very good feelings about American Home Shield. They've been really great since I've lived in this house. This is my second call for them since I moved in in January, and I find that when I go in and set up for what I need, within 24 hours I have a contractor calling me to set up the appointment. He was here, not the next day but the following day, and that's on both calls.
The gentleman came in, he told me who he was at the door, he showed me his badge, we talked about what the problem was, we went out to the air conditioner, and we can remotely control the unit by using our phones. So, we turned the AC on while he was there and he looked inside it, and he said he knew exactly what was wrong. He had the air conditioner up and running in half an hour and I paid no additional cost besides the co-payment to American Home Shield.
The two gentlemen that came for both this visit and the last visit were both very professional. They cleaned up after themselves and they both took time to explain things to me, so I understood what was going on. And being somebody who's not mechanically inclined, I felt that was a wonderful thing. It was a fantastic experience for both items. We'll make sure we have enough money when renewal comes that we can renew our warranty with American Home Shield because I think it's a great service.

They got the plumber here within a week and he was great. He was very courteous and he put a cover on his shoes as he didn’t want to walk on the rug. He fixed the leak, did everything perfectly and cleaned up his mess. He did his job and left, and he didn’t waste time. Everything's fine and I couldn't ask for anything better. I've already recommended American Home Shield to other people. I told my friend what the warranty covers and he also got questions. I gave him the phone number so that he could call AHS and now he's using them.

I am so glad to be back under the umbrella of American Home Shield. I left it a couple of years ago because money was tight and it was the worst decision I ever made, but they took me back. My recent claim was for my dryer as it was making a loud noise. I called AHS when I filed the claim. I'm 86 and my husband's 89, and I prefer not to do things online. It was just a day when we had someone come and look at the problem. When the contractor came out, he was so knowledgeable and nice. He said it was metal on metal and he even showed me where it was. He ordered the part and a week later, he called to say that the part was in. He came back, put the part in and fixed it. I was without a dryer for a week, but that was all right. I've been using the dryer ever since and everything is topnotch. He also told me that I was lucky to have an old Maytag because the ones that they are making now aren't worth the material that they're made on.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. The recent claim was for the washing machine. There was no water in the washing machine. I filed the claim online with American Home Shield and their website navigation was easy to use. The technician came and fixed the problem. My interaction with the technician for that claim was easy.
But for the previous claim, it was a little difficult. The issue then was plumbing-related. The water wasn't running right. We only got the hot water, but the cold water barely come out. But the technician said that he couldn't fix the problem and that it was not a plumbing issue. But I still ended up getting charged for that claim. So, I was thinking about terminating my account with American Home Shield. I contacted them, but they couldn't fix my plumbing problem and I still have it. My experience with American Home Shield was not good. It's a good program but the people that they send sometimes can't resolve the problem.
One big issue is that the people they send can only come on Monday to Friday. I'm working on Monday to Friday and it's hard for me to take days off from work. But they can't send anyone to come on Saturday. The last time, the people that they sent told me that they'd come on certain days. So I took the day off of work, but then the guy still couldn't come, so I wasted one day off from my work. I can tell friends to try American Home Shield, but there's no guarantee they can fix the problem, and then they have to take days off of work. I know a Sunday is not possible as people need to go to church. But if American Home Shield can have someone come out at least on Saturday, that would be helpful, but it's just not possible.

I also had a dryer that was moved and I thought the movers messed it up because it wouldn't come on so, I put it out, got it hold off and got another dryer. Whenever that dryer wouldn't come on and the oven wouldn't come on, I called AHS. The guy that came out looked at it and said it's not the oven nor the dryer. It's the breaker. It would be on the Entergy company so, I called Entergy and they came out. I have sort of electrical problems going on with my house. My power surges and my lights are flickering. We had one breaker that kept dripping and it's not what I want to deal with right in the hallway.
I shouldn't have to keep paying $75 service fee and not getting stuff done. The contractor even told me that they have two hours to spend at my house and that's they're supposed to spend out there until they can find something else wrong. And then, it can be requested to have more time to cover the pay. From what I'm hearing, their hands are tied for how long they have to spend out at my house. That's not fair. To me, that's crap. Not everything is going to be a quick fix. I'm about to pay my third service fee of $75 so, that's $225 I'm about to pay and my issue is still not resolved. If there's something wrong, I want it fixed. On the other hand, the contractors have been super nice. I just bought the house and I've been in it for 60 days. I should be able to feel comfortable in my house. It's just very frustrating and I'm disappointed with American Home Shield.

I had two toilets that were dripping. The one toilet was not flushing properly. Every couple of days I had to use the plunger. Then I had a kitchen leak and the cutoff valve was leaking. I filed a claim online with AHS and the process was not that easy. They cannot list all the things that are required so you have to call back in again and tell them exactly what needs to be done.
It took 2 days for them to send a technician and it didn’t go well. After like three minutes I just told him to leave because there were like five things to do on the list and he wasn’t too happy with that. The way I noticed how American Home Shield works, the technicians are going to come over here, spend 15, 20 minutes and then leave. Then I had my faucet hooked up and I told him, “Can you unscrew that faucet and see that it's dripping?” He did that and then he hooked it on again. I had my kitchen remodeled. While they were putting new faucets on, the water was shut off for half a day until they got it fixed up. I couldn’t cut it off. Then he refused to fix it.
Then I told him, “The commode is not flushing properly. It must be a blockage or something,” and he said, “No. You guys are using the wrong toilet tissue.” I said, “I've been in the house for 15 years using the exact same thing. There's something else wrong it.” He said, “No. There's nothing wrong.” He said, “I'm not even sure why you guys sent me over here.” Then I just asked him to leave.
I made like five calls about that to AHS but they kept on telling me a supervisor’s going to call me back. Nobody has called back. I called the plumbing company. They came out. As soon as the technician left, I called the company and tried to explain to them what happened and they wouldn’t listen to me. She said, “My technician was right. You were wrong.” Then they just hung up the phone. Others who have come out just want to keep it bare minimum and just get out the door. But some of them have come back and took care of the issues completely.

Everything started happening at once. I had claims for the garbage disposal, then the garage door opener, and the oven. I submitted the claims online and I found American Home Shield’s website easy to navigate. The contractors they sent out have all been great, too. The guy who did the garage door opener service and the plumber have been here a couple of times and both of them were very solid and very professional. The garbage disposal and garage door are fine now but it has been very frustrating because we haven’t had a functional oven in almost a month.
AHS told me that they sent me a letter that I was supposed to respond to about getting 350 bucks for a new appliance but I told them by chat and phone calls that that was not what I wanted. I told them to go find the part which was out there and that I'd rather wait two or three weeks for them to find the part than for me to have to take their little copay and spend another $1,500 on a decent oven myself. I'm in waiting mode now and as of yesterday, their rep told me it could be three to five weeks for the part and I didn’t appreciate the customer service person I spoke to yesterday. He was their emotionless robot.
When I asked if there was any way to expedite my claim because I’m a business owner and I have customers, and how I could get more details, he replied that there were no more details and they could not expedite. Then, when I told him their other rep told me that the part would be ordered today and if I could get confirmation on that, he said they didn't provide confirmation. So, it was some bad service. My experience with American Home Shield has all been positive except for this issue with my oven. I've been getting the runaround and maybe the person I spoke to yesterday simply isn't empowered to do anything other than what's on a script, but if I treated my customers that way, I'd be out of business.
Also, AHS was very inflexible in terms of who they contract with. When I had the garbage disposal issue, AHS told me they only had one contractor in my area that could come out next Monday between 3:00 and 5:00. It's a small town and there are a lot of plumbers. AHS might want to broaden their horizons and not have me wait a week. Fortunately, I work from home and I work whenever I want, but for the average person who's got a job or got to get the kids somewhere, that type of limitation is very unfriendly.
If a friend is considering American Home Shield, I'd tell them not to rule it out but compare other home warranty companies. And if they can get at least two or three to talk to them, they should find out the available contractors in their area, dig into the contract, and see what the reality is when something happens such as getting offered $350 to replace a $2,000 oven.

The first experience we had with AHS was the contractor was not too good at fixing products. Then, the washing machine that they gave us, we're still having issues out of it. It doesn't twirl up like it should. This is the thing with home warranty people and it's insane. We pay the warranty to take care of our home and that's all we expect. We expect the best experience out of the ones they send. It's always a stipulation that, "We don't do this or we don't call that." It's all about who you get as an agent or a customer service person. Anybody don't treat you the same.
We use a home warranty, but I don't have to have a home warranty. I got electricians and plumbers, people who build houses that I know that I've contacted. And when I researched the problem, it was an extensive one in my filter where it busted on the inside and it was letting the sand go back into the water. I had pool coverage with my warranty so I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and I set it up for them to fix it. Dealing with the reps was very nice. I had to use them a few months ago for our air conditioner. Both of my units were getting a little issue so I wanted them checked which the repairman did. I didn't realize that you had to pay two separate service calls if you have two units in your house so they called me and I paid them over the phone. Then, they advised the repairman to do both units. It was a pleasant interaction and the techs have all been great.
The pool people were very professional and nice but it took a while for the parts to come in and they didn't really update me so I had to call them a couple of times to find out what was going on with the repair and when they were going to come. After the repair, everything has been working like it should. Also, I live about 20 minutes from my house and whenever they come to repair, I would just leave work. Ridiculous! Eight trips to fix my refrigerator... are you guys insane? I have never been treated with such disregard. My time is just as important as yours, but apparently you all do not agree. The past two months dealing with AHS has been nothing less than painful. I have had to dump and restock my refrigerator numerous times because the company you originally sent out to do the repair was unsuccessful! That company (...) was sent to my house FIVE TIMES! That is absurd! It wasn't until after I lost my cool with you guys did you finally send a knowledgeable company out (Gulf Coast Service Center).
I am a working mother of two very active boys. I do not have the time to sit and wait for technicians to come every darn week. I do not have the money to weekly dump and restock my refrigerator; because it didn't get fixed correctly. I do not have the patience to wait 10-20 minutes every time I call for you all to pick up the phone. I am truly appalled by the way AHS handled this situation. You did not care about my time. You did not care about the inconvenience it was for me and my family. You did not care about the money I was wasting on buying new, fresh food. All you cared about was saving your own dime, but certainly not your reputation.
Would you be okay with not having a consistently working refrigerator? Would you like to spend countless hours dealing with getting it repaired? Would you be okay with paying monthly to a home warranty company that's slogan is "if we can't fix it... we'll replace it... after 2 months and 8+visits"? Me neither! I am thankful for AHS finally sending a knowledgeable technician, Travis, from Gulf Coast Service. Although, had you sent him out to begin with; I wouldn't be writing such a horrible review.
Also... I believe that the 1st company you sent out should be checked into by AHS. I'm not sure if all the work that was supposedly being done, and all the parts that were supposedly being replaced were in fact done/replaced. So hopefully my refrigerator continues to work, and hopefully I do not need AHS "assistance" anytime in the near future. I sincerely hope this review is read thoroughly by someone who has the authority to make some changes; or I might need to make some myself. Your very disappointed and annoyed customer, Kim.

I had an easy experience filing the claim to American Home Shield for the washer. I called it in because I wasn't at home when it went out. The technician came out and he was straightforward. He looked at it and said that it was going to cost quite a bit of money to fix. He didn’t think he'd get the parts because I pretty much had to have a whole new washer. It took them four days before they figured out what they were going to do. I was without a washer the whole time and it was expensive going to the laundromat. They couldn’t repair the washer and they're supposed to be delivering a new one on Monday. I got a front load to see if it would work better than the top load.
The other claim I had was for my AC that went out on Sunday. AHS said it would be a week before they could send a technician out. I told them to forget it and that I had to get somebody else because my mom, who is in her 70’s, lives with me and I can't have no air conditioner for a week in Texas. Finally, I called and AHS got somebody to come on Thursday. AHS did what they said they would, but they were a bit slow.

He told me about some work that had been done previously and wondered why the plumber didn’t do something else that he thought should have been done. He resolved the issue and we haven’t had any problems since.
I noticed that we had some mold underneath the sink. I thought that would have been covered by American Shield but when I called back to discuss that with the representative, they said it wasn’t. I went over my contract and I saw that it was not covered so I was disappointed about that. We’ve used American Home Shield twice, once for a problem in the bathroom, with that mold, and this recent one. Both times, we were very pleased. We had a different plumber for each problem but both were very professional.

I had a plumbing issue recently and American Home Shield's online claims process was good. The timeframe that it took for them to get back in touch with me after I submitted the claim was also good. All the contractors that I dealt with were really helpful and knowledgeable. There hasn't been any leak since the repair, so it's great. I've been with American Home Shield for a while, and I would refer them.

It was smelling of propane when my heater would start up. When I submitted my claim online, I got an immediate referral to a contractor, and then it was up the contractor to do their thing. But the contractor, Redwood Heating and Cooling, was a little slow. They canceled on me twice and it took a week for them to come out. Also, they didn’t get the diagnosis correctly the first time they came and they said there was no problem. I called them back and and they were here immediately the next day, and they found the problem. But I went for two weeks without a heater and it was during the cold time too. I have a sensitive nose and I still got a faint smell, so I called them back again. They came out and checked everything, and they said that everything was fine.
The problem hasn’t gotten any worse since then. The smell is faint, but it's there. It's not propane, but I can't tell whether it smells more like an exhaust. The smell is not there all the time, so maybe something burns but the heater works. Nonetheless, I'm very happy with American Home Shield overall and I appreciate their business.

I've had several claims with American Home Shield, the most recent being a half bath that was leaking in the wall. We submitted it online and then followed up with a phone call. I usually have to wait till they call back, like if I call five times, I'll probably get an answer once. We had a plumber and a drywall person, and my husband was there for that appointment. The drywall person was awesome and fast. The plumber had to come out twice because initially, he thought the leak was from the roof but it was actually a pipe. And then, he had to come out twice for the bathroom and twice for the dishwasher. I had to call back and make a new call for the half bathroom because when he came out the previous times, I showed it to him but I didn't have an actual call-in for it.
If I didn't have a little bit of knowledge or background, it would have been easy for me to just put in a call and for them to come out and say, "Oh, it's not this," but it really is. But everyone was really nice. It's good to have American Home Shield as a warranty company, but I'd advise others to have a thorough conversation with whatever vendor about the source of the problem.

We had a thermostat issue where the main thermostat in the house was not turning on and it seemed like an electrical wiring issue. We had someone come a couple of different times before the actual problem was diagnosed. One of the times, the techs came and thought that it was potentially due to a stripped wire. The guy fixed it temporarily, but then it stopped working quickly thereafter within that same day. So, we had to call the air conditioning company that American Home Shield sent back again.
Another guy came and he did a more thorough investigation and check-up. He was able to figure out what the problem was and he fixed it, and since then, we have not had a problem. The techs were professional and very helpful. They did a great job. It was a complicated problem, and even though they weren’t able to fix it completely the first time, they came back without any complaints and were able to get it fixed. At this point the appliance is still working, so we’re happy. When it wasn’t working, it was hot in one of the sections of our home. But now that it’s fixed, everything is good.
We moved into the house two months ago and we had an issue with one of the water heaters, and we were not happy with the plumbing company that was initially sent to us by American Home Shield. But as far as the air conditioning issue, they’ve done a good job with that. I would definitely tell my friends that if they were buying a home that had been lived in previously by another family, having American Home Shield is a good idea because you never really know what things might come up that need to be fixed.

We had a leaking faucet and usually filing a claim with AHS takes about two minutes, but this time, it was quicker than usual but was not a hassle. The contractor company AHS sent was on it and sent texts when the plumber was on his way. The communication was great and they showed up right on time. The plumber had to replace the capsule thing under the handle. He was the best plumber AHS has sent. And that's why we keep on renewing with American Home Shield.
Good communication is the key, especially in the warranty industry Craig. I'm happy that you had a smooth experience. We look forward to servicing your warranty needs in the future. Thanks for your positive feedback. Have a beautiful week.

I was at work and my son was at home. And he told me that he was going to call me once he looks at it, after he looked at my unit to tell me what was wrong with it. But he gave me a call after he had already added the Freon and didn't call me to tell me that that was what it needed. I was upset about that. And he didn't check it for leaks. I asked him why he added it without calling me and he said he didn't know and that he was just adding it. He also said, "Well, I can remove the Freon then." So, he was being smart-alecky with me. And then he charged me $90 on top of the $75 that I had to pay.

I had a problem with the other few stuff in the refrigerator but the main problem was the icemaker. The contractor went here and they fixed it up but they forgot to put the little metal bar that automatically shuts the icemaker when it’s full otherwise it produces more ice. After that, I called the company and I told them that the icemaker was producing ice like crazy and it could not stop. I asked them when are they going to come. I told them it has to be Monday or Friday before 12 PM because I have to go to my work. And it has to be after 4:00 if it’s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Two weeks ago, the contractor told me that they’ll call me the next week but nobody called. I called last week asking when are they going to come to fix it. Then, they told me they didn’t have an appointment or somebody available. I told them that they already fixed this and now I needed to re-fix it because the icemaker is producing ice like crazy. They then told me that they’ll let me know and I said that I’ll call my insurance company.
So, for that reason, I called American Home Shield again and then someone put a claim in order so they can for sure call me because they have like a 48 hours. They told me that the schedule will be on Thursday. But in the morning, I called them that I had an emergency because the contractor told me that the person is on his way to fix it. They then told me, thet they're going to let me know when our schedule would be. I then told them that I needed them to fix it as fast as they could. They said they would next Monday, which was in three days. So, I'm waiting for someone from that company to call me today to tell me at what time exactly is the person going to come on Monday to fix the icemaker. That aside, the guy who went to my house was really nice. But the customer service with the contractor was really bad and I didn’t like it. I don't know why I have to call them many times in order to fix the problem.

I'd never really considered anything like a home warranty but I ended up having the American Home Shield coverage when I purchased the house as part of the purchase agreement and the previous owners were going to pay for the service. It turned out really well since we've only been in the house for about a month or so, and our first experience using AHS worked out to be a good experience. We had an issue with the furnace lighting up then it would shut down. It will only run a few seconds and then, it wouldn't bring the house up to heat. I submitted my claim through the Internet and it was easy. I'm hearing impaired so sometimes the Internet is better. Then the contractor they sent was very friendly. He arrived on time, he got busy, fixed the problem, and replaced the part. Now the house stays warmer and the furnace runs correctly. The warranty has been a good investment so far.

The hot water heater busted. It was leaking big time and there was no way of repairing it. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and then on the phone. They sent out a contractor almost the next day, but it couldn't be fixed until AHS replaced the whole unit. The thing I didn't like about it was that I was told by the contractor that AHS wouldn't cover for a similar thing, but one that has less BTUs. And when I said, "Okay. Then, go ahead and get me one that's similar and I'll pay the difference," I got called by AHS later to say that, "That's not true. We'll give you one of the same." And I said, "Okay." When I said, "Okay. Then, don't do what the contractor said that he was going to do the upgrade just to the same one that you guys will be giving me," they said they'll call the contractor to confirm but they never did.
The contractor called me back and said that, no, they were never going to call and do I still want to keep the appointment and do I still want to upgrade. So, I called AHS and they told me that, no, they only have one that has less BTUs. I thought they were going to give me equal, but they didn't. So, I went ahead and did the upgrade and paid the extra $110 more for the upgrade. But there are a lot of hidden fees because they don't cover a lot of things. The hidden fees weren't inclusive. I was thinking that it was just going to cost me $100 for the contractor to come out and then they're going to fix them all. So I was sure that if I didn't have American Home Shield, it would probably cost me $1,500 or so. They should be upfront and say that, "We'll cover this much, but there will be hidden fees that you have to pay the contractor." I ended up paying $510 out of this whole thing because they don't cover for earthquake straps and the gas tank on top.

I had two claims to American Home Shield. One was for a refrigerator and one was for a light switch. Both claims were filed online and the technicians were out the next day in both cases and they were neither very communicative. Since I’ve been using the wrong light bulb, I found out that my light switch could only accommodate incandescent bulbs, and I had no idea of any of that. If I hadn’t asked questions, I wouldn’t have found out what was wrong. I asked the guy, “What’s causing it to act like a strobe light?” And he said that I can’t use fluorescent lights with the dimmer switch as it was not set to work with fluorescents. I asked him, “What about halogen?” to which he said that it also was not set for that. I told him I wanted to start using energy efficient lights.
He was already there with the part and had almost finished putting it in, and he said that energy efficient lights cost a lot more but I might have paid the extra. The guy was knowledgeable once I asked him, but I would have done it differently if I had known all the information. On the other hand, the refrigerator guy was better. Since the repair, everything is fine. I love having a warranty on a property and I recommend American Home Shield to everybody. It’s just peace of mind knowing that I can have someone come and look at what’s wrong with my system and they’re not going to charge me an arm and a leg. The contractors may have an incentive to do that and get more out of American Home Shield, but it’s the peace of mind knowing that I have a flat cost if I need to change out an appliance.

The interaction with the contractor was good as well, but there was some confusion on whether they were going to replace the exchanger or replace the whole unit itself. There was a little back and forth squabble on what the contractors were going to do and what American Home Shield was going to cover. Basically, the whole inside of the heater had to be replaced and it was an expensive part. Bottomline, the quality of work was good, however, it took three weeks to get the part in. So, my family had to do without heat for several weeks. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has been good and I’ve been well pleased with them. The service I get from them has all been good. We had a good experience with American Home Shield. When I called them, not only was the stove acting up but the microwave was acting up as well and they were both Whirlpool and I wanted to see if they could combine the visit with one repair center. One of the burners on the stove was not working and also there was an issue with the controls where you would put it on rapid bake or rapid preheat, and once it gets the temperature, it's supposed to cycle over to bake and sometimes it would cycle over and sometimes it would get stuck and stay in scrolling mode and it wouldn’t flip over.
Within a week, someone from Ashman Appliance Service came in and he was able to fix the microwave first. Then, he looked at the burner and determined that the burner was bad. He also ordered a motherboard for the stove and told me that when the burner gets bad, it shorts out the switch. So he also ordered a switch and he came back only to find out that they had sent him the wrong burner. So he reordered that again but in the meantime, he put in the motherboard and the switch and then he came back another time and put on the burner and that looked okay. Right afterward, we noticed that another burner adjacent to it now had come dislodged from him working on the unit.
I called American Home Shield again and they reopened the case. Then, Ashman Appliance promptly called and I was able to communicate with them through sharing a photograph through our smartphones showing them what was going on. The technician asked me to send him a picture of the serial model of the stove and that he would reorder that burner. He then came and installed it. So after six visits, we're now in good working order. A lot of it was beyond their control and it wasn't their fault.
Additionally, the Ashman’s always call in advance and let you know when they were going to be there and they were always there on time. It just took an extended period to get things situated. But they were always very pleasant. Other than that, the call center of American Home Shield puts you on an extended wait if you're needing to call in. At the same time, I've learned and tried to schedule things and do stuff online if it were possible. Still, I am happy with American Home Shield and there wasn’t anything they could have done to help minimize the visits. It was kind of a comedy of circumstances. I've had American Home Shield for five years and there had been times when I would like to have a little bit faster service, but I've always found that they've been fair and reasonable. I've recommended them to several of my colleague in the office.

We were having a plumbing issue and the plumber that American Home Shield sent out thought that it was a condensation unit for my air conditioning. He didn't examine everything very well and he could have done a more thorough review of what was happening and made the determination instead of him walking away and saying he didn’t know and we’ll have to get someone else which AHS did. But they told me that that guy couldn't find the issue either so I ended up having to hire my own plumber to diagnose and fix it. It turned out that the p-trap for my shower was leaking and that's where the water was coming from.
If the plumbers did the job and figured the issue sooner, I probably would have gotten that $1,000 that's covered for plumbing. I had to pay that out of my own pocket so the homeowner's insurance didn't help me for that purpose. They told me that they were going to bring in a leak specialist but they said it had to be pre-approved first. All of them coming over got nothing done. We also had someone come in and look at our washer. The guy replaced the rubber ring around the unit because we have a different motor but then he busted one of the pipes. He left and told us that we have to make another appointment to come back. So I was without a washer and we ended up buying our own. We wanted to get reimbursement on that part but AHS told us that they can't do that.
I had to talk to a supervisor and I was told that they couldn't reimburse me the $20. It wasn't until a week later that somebody called me and told me to submit the receipt and that they'll pay me back for it. Had they done that in the beginning, I wouldn't have gone through so much headache. It was just a silly cord work that instead of them having to come back out it could have been fixed. I'm inclined to get a reimbursement on the home insurance policy.
They've already inconvenienced me twice. And every single time they did that I'd have to miss work and wait for them. Also, I call in my claims because half the time when I do it online, something is wrong with their site. I put it in my login number and my password and then I wouldn't be able to get through. And then I called them about that and their system was down so I ended up going through the process of speaking to customer service and talking to them and then trying to deal with the issues. Three times out of those conversations I was ready to hang up. I was really upset.
I understand your concerns with the experience you encountered to have the plumbing leaks repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

This is my first claim and the problem has not been resolved. I was told another department would handle it. I have two issues. One is the service has not yet been performed. For the last two weeks, I had been jerked around. Three days they called me and in the three days I took off work, I lost money. And now, nobody is here. Another issue is I paid for a new contract to American Shield for next year's renewal. I am a customer for a year. I paid for a renewal on my credit card three weeks back. We found out that our water heater wasn't working efficiently so we submitted a claim with American Home Shield. That was easy. We made the call and they got somebody out. However, the tech was a little unprofessional. He had his wife with him and I don't know what she was here for. And the first day he showed up, he was in a white shirt and jeans with a little makeshift badge that said plumber on it. The next time he showed up, he was wearing another white shirt but he had his plumbing company's name on it written in Sharpie. He was just an odd individual.
He was also negligent when he had his wife test the water pressure to my old water heater. She just turned it on then when she unplugged it, it didn't close all the way and it shot water everywhere. Thankfully, I'm in water mitigation so I knew how to properly dry and make sure I didn't grow any mold. But I'm not too mad. The guy came and did his job and my water heater works now. All in all, they were out here a total of three times. They had to come out the first time to test the water heater and see where that was going to take it. Then they had to replace the part. I ended up having my water heater replaced.
I've had American Home Shield since I first bought the house a few months ago. The actual old seller bought the home warranty for us and I would tell others to get one. I spent however much my payment was to get that plumber out here and I got a brand new water heater out of it. The home warranty makes owning a home for the first time extremely easy.

Our icemaker quit working and the clothes washer started to leak. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the phone and I called them on a late Friday afternoon. I was on hold for over 48 minutes before I finally hung up so I was really pissed. And I even told them that when I finally got ahold of them the following Monday. A recording that would have come on and said, “We’re now closed. Please call back on Monday” would have been better than getting that same cycle, “We’ll be with you in a moment, your call is important to us”, for 48 minutes. I was really ticked off about their automated service that day. But every time I talked to a human being, they've been very good.
The contractor was fine and professional. He tried to see if he could fix the ice cube maker. And after a couple of attempts for different things to fix, he just took the whole thing out, replaced, then put a new one in and hooked it all back up. It was a 20-minute process where it would need to fill up with water, freeze, and then dump the ice cubes. He was smart to do the ice maker fix first. When we thought that was done, we left it and then he went to the clothes washer and took off the frame. He found out that the pump that pumps out the wastewater was leaking. He showed me exactly where it was leaking and popped in a new one. And by the time he got all the cleanup done and ready to go out, the ice cube maker was churning out ice cubes. I was very happy with his professionalism and the results. The appliances have been perfectly working since then.

I found out that there were some renter people in the town that I live that ensured about 10 or 12 rental houses that were about to fall down so it raises everybody else’s rate to cover it. Basically, when somebody bought 10 or 12 rental houses that haven’t had a screw twisted on it in 50 years and then has used up most of the property of American Home Shield to fix that problem. You’ll find them by looking for the plumbing issue. All the plumbing has to be done and they’ll continue to repair. Because basically, it gets passed on to the rest of us and it also takes its return on investment away from the investor.

The most recent claim we had with American Home Shield was for some plumbing issues. We weren’t getting much water out of our kitchen sink. I submitted the claim online and although there wasn't any place to really put what the problem was, it was an easy process. The contractor who came out just cleaned the diffuser which I kind of had already done and he was professional. I'd tell others that AHS is worth it.

One of the small parts in the refrigerator burned and had to be replaced. I filed a claim online, and it was a very smooth and effective experience. American Home Shield was timely in contacting me after I submitted the claim and I was very pleased with the contractors. They were very helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. I was impressed. The refrigerator has been working very good too. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield’s overall service and I strongly recommend them.

I recently filed a claim online with American Home Shield for a furnace that was not working and it was very easy. The site is very user-friendly. The first contractor was a bit late but he had some car problems and it wasn’t much of a big deal. We thought we had fixed the furnace, then they left. Did the same thing the next day. I re-initiated the call and called them directly versus back to American Home Shield. They came out at home again and then repaired the item. The only thing that my wife dislikes is they do not do any type of preventative maintenance. The biggest problem would be the annual HVAC, your heating and your air conditioning that you want for a possible preventative or identifying problems that are gonna be sooner than later.
Daniel,
I would like to thank you for taking advantage of our online portal and I am glad to hear that you found it very easy to navigate through. I am glad the contractor was able to repair the furnace. We will do what it takes to continue to provide you with those good experiences!

Water was overflowing, coming up out of the tub and out of the toilets. I called American Home Shield to submit my claim and it took longer to get ahold of a rep than talking to them. The technician called me within 24 hours and they were out to the property in 48 hours. I had a good experience with the technician. Having a home warranty is really valuable, the way American Home Shield cares. I do not stress as much about taking on the whole burden of the problem. I have recommended them. I told other people that if they want to release their pressure on a home property to somebody, get some insurance and they’ll help them not think about it as much.

I had my microwave repaired recently because it was not opening. This was my fourth claim to American Home Shield and each time, the process of submitting the claim has been very efficient. American Home Shield sent a very good contractor. They came from Topeka. They were on time and they were nice people that I have kept their card on the fridge for things. The push button was broken, so they changed the whole panel. Even if something is not covered, I will be using them. Everything is great and that's why I renewed my contract with American Home Shield. It's a wonderful service and very affordable. With AHS, I've got peace of mind.
Thanks for your sharing your experience Pir. We appreciate your business.

We got signed up with AHS through our realtor. When we bought our house, part of the deal from our buying agent was that he was going to give us a home warranty. He usually went with a different provider and he had been passing American Home Shield with one of the local vendors. He opted to give them a try with us just to see if we like it or not.
We had a dryer that we had when we moved in to the house and was working fine. All of a sudden, we came in to the house and the dryer had an error message that said “PF.” My wife tried to turn it on and it didn’t quite catch fire but it started smoking so we unplugged it. It turned out one of the circuit boards had gone bad and burned up. They had an appliance repair company come out and diagnosed it and then replaced the board. We went about a week without our dryer which was hard on my wife. She does three loads of laundry because we got two little kids. The inability to dry anything was difficult but luckily, the weather was good so she was able to hang some of it out to dry.
Submitting the claim was pretty straightforward. You just go to their website and submit the claim saying what the item is. The only thing that’s missing is that it doesn’t really ask what the problem is. Somebody just schedules someone to come out without details so when the repair people come out, they don’t know what exactly it is for until they show what type of device it is. Otherwise, it takes a couple of minutes.
Right now I’m about fifty-fifty with AHS. Most of the time they cover everything and it’s no problem. Then every once in a while, I’ll submit something that I’m sure they’re going to cover and then they find some loophole and don’t cover it. Some of those loopholes aren’t obvious from reading through the contract. The most recent one was, we have a whole house fan in our house and we specifically added extra coverage for the whole house fan which had stopped working. They denied the claim because the part that stopped working was the controller board which allows you to turn it on and off. But because it’s a wireless controller board, they consider it as a separate, home automation device which they don’t cover.
Even though it was part of the unit and it was that way when we bought the house, it’s not covered. We paid $75 to have someone come out and tell us, “Here’s what’s wrong,” which we knew what the problem was but it’s not covered. It's something that would have been free if we had just hired the company electrician to come out and look at it first. If you were buying an older house or had a lot of older appliances, the warranty is worth the cost. We recently renewed our contract with them because we’ve had enough repairs done and we’re in a bit older house with some more expensive appliances. We opted to keep the contract because we got enough benefit out of it to make it worthwhile so far.

I called two plumbers for a different reason but I told them that the water wasn’t coming out of my faucet at full force. Both of them gave the same answer, to just soak it and seal it all. But I thought it wasn’t that and I kept thinking that there was some debris from the pipe going through and clogging it. I started investigating and I even took a picture under there and sent it to one of the plumbers. I had a sneaking suspicion of what it could be and although they kept suggesting that I might have to get a new faucet, I could tell that was not the problem.
Then it dawned on me that I have American Home Shield and I thought they can check it if it is the faucet and if they can't fix it, they're good about replacing. So the guy came out and I was right with my suspicion. It was funny because he came in and he wasn't acting like a typical plumber. He was really good in trying to figure out the cause and effect, and he was nice too. He was able to pinpoint the issue with the water restrictor. It’s like a gasket that’s hard plastic, and he just had to hit it and knock whatever debris was stuck in there. We have copper pipes and eventually that copper turns green then it would break off. And after he cleared the lines, the medium and the hot water come out fine. But the cold water still doesn't. Nonetheless, I'm seriously happy to have what I had. At that point I was happy to not do my dishes in my bathtub, and we'll continue with assessing the situation as I move forward.
I would totally recommend American Home Shield to any homeowner. Anytime I’ve called anybody from American Home Shield, they’ve been really good. And I think the company itself is good. Their monthly charge, put in a tranche, is not that much so I'd rather have that and call somebody out and no matter what, it's going to be their flat fee. I’m not going to be paying thousands more for somebody trying to scam me.

We renewed the contract with AHS this year based on a good experience for last year, although the calls made were for simple problems. After the renewal our refrigerator quit working, the service company they sent (prior payment of $100) told us that the main electronic board will need to be replaced. A week later they called us that the board was no longer made and they were notifying AHS to pay for a replacement refrigerator or cash value, as stipulated in their contract. It has been 3 weeks and AHS has not done anything! When we call they say they do not have the "diagnosis" from the service company, the service company tell us they notify them three times of the "diagnosis". So, it is a run around to avoid paying what the contract calls for. Will never take contract with them again!!!

After posting this review I was contacted by a social media person. After discussing the situation she offered to include the cost of the duct work needed due to the part dimensions being different. It was a fair settlement. That left me responsible for the cost of the freon which I agree should not have been covered as it clearly states in the contract that they only cover $10 lb.
I gave them a 4 because though it took a little effort to get there, they did do what I believe was a fair settlement. I have had my repairs done and all is well.
Original Review: April 7, 2018
I have had my home warranty close to two years. Last August my AC started acting up. I paid the $125 and a tech came out. He replaced a part but couldn't check for Freon leaks because he didn't have the right tools but he had topped it off. Fast forward to April 1 and my AC is not working again. AHS sends someone out who tells me there are 3 leaks and no freon. Frustrating as the cost for the freon is $800+ out of pocket and had they found the leaks last year when I had freon I wouldn't have had to pay that.
Then I get a call... There is another $400 in charges for duct modifications that is also going to be out of pocket. I call the tech to ask about it and I'm told that the coil dimensions are different so they need to modify the ducts to make it fit. I think... No problem. I'm sure they will pay it. I call AHS assuming they mistakenly denied the coverage... After all I have duct coverage AND in order to complete the repair to the air conditioner which is also cover it's required.
I call AHS and appeal only to be told that yes I have duct coverage but the duct wasn't broken. And yes I had AC coverage - but that didn't cover the ducts EVEN THOUGH THE MODIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED DUE TO PARTS NOT BEING AVAILABLE THAT MATCH THE ONES BEING REPLACED. It's funny that they take that stance - vs. looking at the verbiage that says if the parts are not available they will provide a replacement. They may be able to stand on the fine print of the contract but it certainly isn't the ethical thing to do. It became very clear the customer service person was not going to budge so I've filed a complaint with the BBB. We will see what happens. I will be cashing out for this repair and getting it done out of pocket AND cancelling my policy. In the meantime I will be paying $800+ out of pocket to replace freon that was lost due to an incorrect repair last August AND the actual repair of the unit.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

This used to be a great company but the past year it has greatly fallen short. Tonight I tried calling them, was on hold for 10 min and when it said, "We will now connect you," I was disconnected. I called back and was on hold for 15 min before I was disconnected. This has happened to me numerous other times. The online chat says someone is available but when you click on the chat link it always says no one is available. They never follow up to see if a repair was completed or care how your experience was. I filled out a scathing review about a claim that had not yet been completed and no one followed up with me about this, in fact on my account it was marked completed.
They consider a broken hot water heater not an emergency and will let you go a week without hot water. They won't pay the plumbing company to come out after hours or on a weekend for this. The plumbing company they have made me use every time, even after they couldn't set an appt for days, because they said they accepted the job so basically they get it, has never felt my repair was a priority. It feels that since it is a warranty claim, I fall to the bottom of the list. Very disappointing to say the least. The last plumbing repair I had done was completed today, I filed the claim on 2/12/18. It was just for a broken hot water handle in my shower. Seriously unacceptable.
We would love to hear more about your experience in an effort to resolve your issue, social media rep will follow up with you soon.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my electric heat pump. It wasn’t heating so that got assigned to OSA Services. They called to schedule a visit. Those guys came out, replaced the relay and it started working again. The guys did a great job and it was all very seamless. However, my claim for the heating unit has been going on for about a month now. That one is an oil burner and it was making a noise. They assigned it to a different company so they had a guy come out and took a look at it. He said, "Well, I can fix but we basically need to rebuild it which means I have to take it away for a few days. It was right before Christmas. It's cold so why don’t I deal with it after." I said it was fine since the system was still working, it was just rattling and making a noise.
Two weeks later, Christmas has passed. American Home Shield had to reschedule the appointment but the guy never showed up. So, the system is still making the noise. I just haven't had the chance to call AHS and figure out when they're coming out again to deal with it. So, if something wasn’t working, I would have been without heat for the past three weeks. Fortunately, the system is still working. It's just that there's something broken inside. In general, when things are working well, everything's fine. It's just that AHS's selection of contractors is hit or miss. Sometimes, they do a great job, sometimes, not so great. If something is broken, you should be able to order a part and put it in as opposed to having to take it out to rebuild it for a 20-year old unit.

They said it would take three to five business days and I was okay with that. Nine days later, I called American Home Shield to say that I haven't heard from the contractor. They called the contractor while I was on hold. The contractor told them that they would be out in a week and a half to fix my leaking pipe under the sink. I've got water damage now and I cannot wait a week and a half. I told them that that was unacceptable. The contractors did state that they had tried to call me twice. I may or may not have gotten calls. However, no messages were left.
American Home Shield said they were going to get back to me. There was some type of compensation that they could give me. They would pay me for what they would pay the contractor and no one has gotten back to me. In the meantime, I had to hire my own plumber and paid $350 to get the problem resolved. My first experience with American Home Shield was when a switch in my heater went out, and the contractor fixed the problem. The second and third claims were both plumbing issues. One was the garbage disposal, where the contractor put the garbage disposal in and didn’t install it properly. The water backed up into my dishwasher, and they came out two days later and resolved that issue. And this was the same plumbing contractor that messed up on this leaking faucet.

The techs came out a week later and did a swift appliance repair and said that they can’t do it and that they were going to recommend somebody else. American Home Shield got another company, Premier Appliance, and they said that they had to replace the part, so they were going to order it. It took over a month to get the part in. They came out and they replaced it and then the freezer went down to cooling again. And then, a day or two later, it started to go back up again. The techs never showed back up again so I called and said that there was still a problem. So, American Home Shield sent out GE and now, not only is my freezer not working but my refrigerator is not working either as of this morning and all my food has gone bad. I'm very upset right now.
I submitted the claim online and whenever I spoke to the American Home Shield representatives, they were nice and they tried to get help. It was the contractors that were not performing. My interactions with the contractors were fine, although they told me that they’re coming another week to finish their job, but that's not acceptable when you don't have a fridge or a freezer. GE left yesterday and I'm trying to get somebody back today. I left them a message and they said they'll call me back. They're trying to get somebody out and I was trying to escalate it prior to a week. American Home Shield needs to make sure that their repair people can do the job because I'm on the third person now and after four months, I haven't gotten anything resolved yet. I'm not happy at this point.

When we call AHS, there's always a waiting time on the phone. We call because we want to talk to someone, we call the number to get the service. But we can never get a live person when we call in for the initial service. I’d like to get a live person then as opposed to they’ll say, “This is your confirmation number. We’re gonna send this person out.” And that's another thing, we don’t always want the people that they recommend. Once we’ve had a good experience with a place, we'd want them back but we don’t always get them back. And so we have to wait. They’ll say we'll have to wait 30 minutes or in some cases, longer than that. That’s the frustrating part. And we'd have to call them back several times to get it finally done. But they get it done eventually. It’s just a hassle.
Our most recent claim with AHS was the injection pump and the little cartridge in the faucet in the upstairs bathroom. This time, the guy came in and there was some confusion. Maybe it was my bad because I learned that if I waited until I had the same kind of problem with more than one thing, then I could get it all done. I had to tell AHS that we had a problem with the faucet and the sump pump. They sent the guy out and he said he had it listed as a recall or callback so he couldn’t do anything.
I had to call AHS back again so that we could have someone for the faucet and the injection pump. We had to wait a little bit of time for that. When the guy came back the second time, he fixed it right away. And then when the injection pump came, it wasn’t doing the same thing that I had complained about. He watched again and started it up again. So he came back and he put a new pump on and it was done. So it’s always like a second, a third or a fourth call. When we have a plumbing problem, it's just always a hassle with the plumbing stuff. Both of them finally got it together the last time though. Next time, I’ll have to call each time for an individual whenever it’s a specific thing.
In the case of our furnace, we like our furnace people. We always have them do our annual stuff in the fall. They came out and they fixed it. But about a week or so later, the furnace wasn’t working so we called them back again. Their guy said we needed a control meter and it was gonna be $500 which I didn't want to pay for. I told him that we would call our insurance people. So we called AHS and when the guy came and looked at it, he said it was fine. It was some kind of a panel and he said it was not bad at all. It worked for a minute again and then we had to call him back. I think that was okay because he had to look at it.
As for the other technicians we had, there was this one guy who was really good. We have all the appliances but we’re replacing them now with newer ones so he may not be able to even handle them. But there was a guy, Bill, and he had done a wonderful job with our appliances. He’d come in, he’d know what it was right away, and he’d take care of it. And then there was the garage door opener guy. He also always did a really good job. I was satisfied overall with AHS's service but I wish it could be where I could say, “Okay, let’s just get this done. I don’t have to call you back anymore.”

I submitted the claim for my washing machine to American Home Shield online. Then someone called from the appliance place. The technician's people skills were a bit lacking but he wasn't rude. Plus he got the job done. Everything went pretty much like it should've. But I think the deductible should be prorated based on the type of service. I can understand whether it's major or minor, you're paying a flat $70 fee. But how much would that service cost apart from that? But it's a very minor gripe. Everything has been a lot easier. Before, it was a pain in the butt to get claims done. But the system has been streamlined a lot so it's definitely an improvement.

When the technician came out, the heater was working again so he said he couldn’t do anything unless it was not working whenever he is here. I understand the reason behind that ‘cause they don’t want to do work if they don’t have to. But at the same time, I'm having to have them come out again for the same issue.
I understand your concerns with your most recent claim to have your water heater serviced. Per the lack of malfunctions during this time it could not be serviced but I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

A day before my youngest son was born, a water pipe burst and it flooded the basement. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they were really good. They sent somebody out to fix the pipe within four hours of us finding the problem and me calling them. They were straightforward and gave me the number of the people to call for the cleanup. The company that came in and hauled away the carpet and dried out the basement was phenomenal. And the gentleman that they sent to come and fix the pipe told me he would take care of everything on his end and deal with the insurance so it was an easy and painless experience. We have water up and running again. I'm happy with American Home Shield and it worked well for me.

I cleaned the filters and everything in the dishwasher, but it didn't matter what I did. It still wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and had the repair all set up. It was easy and their response time was quick. The repairman that came did great and was able to repair my dishwasher. He was very personable and willing to help me. He even told me about products that would help my dishwasher to do better. It was a fantastic experience.

With American Home Shield, the experience varies by who your contractors are. Some of the contractors are great but some are not and that's part of their problem. There were two things I needed repaired in my most recent claim with American Home Shield. One was the dishwasher and they were able to find parts for this old machine fortunately, and the dryer. I submitted the claim over the phone and it worked fine. The contractor was good too. They did the two of them at the same time which was a saving for both us and AHS. The technician was a pleasant fellow and he did what he was supposed to do in a timely manner. I had never heard of the outfit before. It was Big 10 Appliance but that claim worked fine.
But I had a major problem with the General Electric subcontractor and I went through all kinds of difficulty with them because of American Home Shield’s procedure. They require the contractor, after the problem is assessed, to make a phone call to them, advise them what the situation is and get the authority to handle it. That is fine but the problem is they have an inadequate number of people available to answer call-ins from the contractors. It was taking upwards of a half hour to get through to AHS and I’ve had contractors flat out say that they weren't going to spend 30 minutes of their time to do it. And even though I sent AHS a fax with the statement from the repairman as to what was wrong, they wouldn't do anything unless they got a call from the contractor. One person said the material could be faxed in but somebody else said that I couldn’t do it that way.
The case dealt with my microwave. It began on January 13th of 2017 and it went on for about two months until finally, somebody from American Home Shield decided to go ahead with it. That person said that they would get this thing set up and covered. They eventually did and American Home Shield replaced the microwave. It was 30 years old and the parts weren’t around anymore. I went to Sears and bought a replacement. I sent that in and American Home Shield paid what they had to pay. It should not have been a big problem. But if I had not gotten involved in it and, by luck, found the right person, American Home Shield might still be resting out there.
A few years ago, I had a problem with a water heater and the plumber I usually use wasn't around. I went through American Home Shield and they paid for what they had to pay but the contractor they sent out charged a hell of a lot. The cost to replace the water heater was about $800 but I ended up paying another $800 for some things they had to do. Some things were okay but the town inspector wouldn't approve the way it was installed. They had to have somebody else come out and straighten it out. After the technician put it in, it shut off late in the afternoon and when I called in, they said they couldn’t get a hold of their technician and there was nothing they could do until Monday. Fortunately, we found the address of the manufacturer and I called them. They told me how to start it up again.
I have that contractor marked down and I would never accept them again. On the other hand, we had another problem in 2013 on an initial defect by the builder of the house and the guy AHS sent to straighten that out was great. He was a finely pleasant fella and he did a great job. The subcontractors vary. But I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and overall, it has worked out well.

My experience with American Home Shield was outstanding. I had a problem with my refrigerator. They said it was the motor for the fan in the freezer and it was just shutting down the whole refrigerator. So it stopped cooling our freezer. I submitted a claim online. The interaction with the tech who came over was perfect. He was very professional and timely. The time that American Home Shield told me the contractors were going to be there, they were there. I liked the way they sent me a stat on a text message over the phone. They were letting me know the schedule, the time, and the date. It was awesome. Everything was perfect.
The first time the tech came over, he checked the refrigerator and he knew what was wrong with it and he had to order the parts. So he had to come back and fix it. It took three days and it was not bad at all. Since they fixed the refrigerator, it has been working perfectly. I would recommend AHS. Every time I have a friend and we come up with the conversation, I always bring American Home Shield up.

Having American Home Shield has been worth it for me. I had a plumbing issue inside the house and I called AHS to submit a claim. I got through their automated service, told them what my problem was, and I got contacted by text immediately. Within an hour, I got a phone call from the contractor, Lone Star. Then a plumber and a helper came out and they did an excellent job. If I didn't have AHS, they'd also be the plumbing company I would use. So, I was very satisfied. But I had two other claims that I was not happy with. I have a fireplace fan that's making noise and the guy who came out told me he fixed it. But within 30 minutes after he left, it was doing the same thing. I called him back and he said he'd try to get back. He also looked at my ceiling fan but we found out that it was not covered. That was fine, but I still need the fireplace fixed.

It was done accordingly too. We haven’t had any issues since he came out and fixed it. With the HVAC, everything went well until the contractor installed the thermostat. He did an extra hole in the wall. My wife and I were not happy with it so we called American Home Shield to see if they could do something about it. My water heater was leaking and it was replaced by American Home Shield approximately four years ago. It’s easier to submit claims online but I can never get anybody out from American Home Shield. I can be on for an hour before I even get to speak to a human. That’s a real pain in the ass and it's something I really hate about this company. When I submit a claim online I get an email. One gentleman came out and told me that the problem had been a burnt insulation where the thermostat had been burnt. He said the whole thing would have to be replaced and I was not going to be able to take a shower or have hot water until after the weekend and so he reported it.
The company that came out and put the water heater had put a flexible hose on top instead of the usual copper, and they soldered it. This hose was on one side so I started getting wet in the family room on the carpet because the top thing had some kind of hole in it. The contractor replaced the female edge or coupler, and then he said that they had told American Home Shield that the top was messed up and it was just a total disaster. Then, Al, the guy from the other place, came in and checked the problem, and said it was the temperature. He took the insulation out and then said it was probably the thermostat so he went and got it. However, the thermostat didn’t need to be replaced, so I had hot water within an hour. The heater has been working fine.
I wasn’t really happy with that company that came first because I’ve had them out here before and they’ve had situations where they told me I had roots in the septic system PVC pipe going from my hot bath downstairs upfront in my septic system. They ran through the thing and they got back and said I've got roots like a tampon, so I thought I was going to have it all dug up. I had this taken care of before and I’ve got an outside thing that they didn’t have to go through the house. They could take the top off the outside thing and do what they did as far as the thing they used to do. But they found out that the pipe didn’t have roots. There were a couple of times that this situation happened and American Home Shield didn’t do anything else. Finally, I got a friend of mine to come over a couple of times and he got the roots out. And the pipe hasn’t been clogged for two years now.
I started out with American Home Shield on $50 for a month and I’m up to $60.99 now. Normally, I have them take out the money. They were doing it earlier in the thing and I get my Social Security check usually at least after 21st or earlier, the third Wednesday of every month. So I had to have them fix the work and have it done after the 21st and keep checking and they haven’t even taken that out.

My experience with American Home Shield was not good at all. I filed a claim online and their website was okay. The first people that AHS sent came out seven times for different reasons, either diagnosing or putting a part in the refrigerator. They thought that was it and they told American Home Shield that they could not fix it. Then, American Home Shield sent me an email of the new company that came out. The new company came out one time to work on the refrigerator and they got it diagnosed right, got the part, then came back out as soon as the part came in and fixed right away.
It took two months to do it as well as two months without my refrigerator and I was not happy. If I can't get anything from AHS to compensate for me for all the time and the aggravation I went through, I probably won’t renew come October. But if they want to compensate me and make me happy, then I'll continue to stay because I've been with AHS for a long time now and this was the first time this has happened. What should be an easy task has evolved into a terrible experience based on the fact that this company has insufficient capacity to deal with its customers to finalize a project. I have called this company for four (4) days simply to finalize the order of a replacement dishwasher and cannot get past their answering service. When I ask for the number for a supervisor, no one knows the number for a supervisor. I have no hopes of getting a call back after 4 days of waiting.
Sadly, the dishwasher they want to replace her unit with is not the same brand or quality of the one she had. So even if and when they do their job to replace the dishwasher, it will be with a substandard product. If you are considering a home warranty company, look elsewhere... Stay completely away from American Home Shield. Read the contract thoroughly and be sure to check the internet for complaints!

I’ve had really good contractors and when I have things that aren’t covered, I generally go back to those people. I’ve done it for the pool, the vacuum, the oven and the stove. Four years ago, I had a very frustrating time with a company but once we got out of that circle, it was fine. That was a long time ago and things have dramatically improved since then. I would tell friends that AHS is beneficial. We have a number of high-end things and if they go out, it’s not tremendously beneficial simply because you don’t get coverage for that. The air-conditioning people, the plumbing people and everybody did a great job. I will recommend AHS to a friend.

We moved in to a new home and the seller who sold us the home gave us a year with American Home Shield. We only had the techs out here one time and everything went as planned and just the way it was scheduled. I was very pleased with AHS and I would definitely renew the contract with them.

Everything has been great with American Home Shield. Our microwave recently kicked the bucket and the tech came in and fixed it. He replaced the fuse in there and got it working. He was very good. My husband filed the claim on the phone and everybody at AHS was pleasant. I would recommend them. As a matter of fact, my husband's dad was looking for somebody and we recommended AHS.

We have American Home Shield for one year now. I had a different home warranty company when I bought the house and I kept that one. Then when the contract was coming to an end, American Home Shield called. Their names are very similar and I thought it was the same company so I went with American Home Shield. My most recent claim was for electrical work and lights. I submitted my claim online and it was easy. They only want you to do it online so they don’t pick up the other lines. If you call in, you have to wait for 45 minutes. We changed the bulbs. It was inconvenient. It started flashing randomly so I don’t think that they always get power. The people who came out to work were really nice but they were not allowed to fix it unless they saw it happening. Since they’ve checked it, it flashed at least 15 or 20 times. I wouldn’t use American Home Shield again.

I had an electrical issue with the garage door. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online, my experience had been terrific. AHS sent out Garage Door Corporation. The guy was fantastic, very helpful, very knowledgeable, smart and on time.
I'm happy to hear that we were able to provide satisfactory service Tom. We appreciate your feedback. Thanks for choosing AHS.

We never had water in the basement for three years then our basement gave out. Our sump pump had an issue and I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. They were really good. I called them at 4 o’clock and I cried telling them there were two inches of water in the basement. My husband and my daughter pumped out 250 gallons but it was futile. Two hours later, AHS got someone in and the same lady who started off with me called me back to ask if the contractor was here. I was super impressed. The contractor sent was great. He was a nice guy, well presented, and knew what he was doing.
The sump pump was fixed in one appointment and it was running by 8 pm. The contractor used the old pump and he was able to get the pump to run enough to pump out the basement water and then swapped it out with a new pump really quick so that it wouldn’t get any higher than it did. The old pump continually ran until the water was out and then he put the new pump in, so he didn’t burn out my new pump. And by the time all the water was out, the old pump was no good and got totaled in the end.
We’ve been with AHS for two years. We’re in our third year starting April 20th. It’s not cheap but then we’re covered for every single appliance and all the plumbing. It’s $625 a year but they gave me a $25 discount because I just set it up so they take it on April 20th of each year. The first time I called them out, we had to wait two days for them to get to us and I didn’t like waiting two days because we have people coming from England. We were above 80 degrees and that was like a wet flannel in our face. Our visitors aren’t used to an Indiana summer and I had to pressure AHS. It was bad but the guy that came out was great.
We told our daughter to use AHS in her house that they’re renting out at the moment and she never got the discount because the guy said they could do it at the end as a referral. They also told her that she can’t and that she had to do it at the beginning. So I was kind of annoyed about that. That was why they gave me the additional discount for this year.

I have American Home Shield on my rental property and it helps out a lot. My property manager files the claims for me. The contractors were helpful people. Everything is great and I will recommend AHS.

Submitting the claim was easy. I just went online and put in the claim for our heater that wasn't working. However, it took about five weeks for the issue to be resolved. It was a nightmare. We had the contractor come out pretty quickly and they thought that it needed to be replaced. American Home Shield claimed that they never called in. But then, we talked to the company and they said that they've called in and they said it needed to be replaced. So American Home Shield fired them and asked for a second company to come out and looked at it, but we never heard from the second company. So then, they contacted a third company who came out and replaced the internal portion of the unit. It wasn't working so they ended up replacing the external portion of the unit.
But even with the new unit, something seemed off. We still have questions about it. We just moved in June, so it's all new to us too. We have two different units and there was an addition put on the house 20 years ago and it services that area. So, it's with our whole kitchen area, bathroom, and upstairs. But it's all kind of open. I don't even know what our bill was because the other one just constantly runs and runs and runs, trying to make up for it.
The communication should be hugely improved. Our Realtor got involved and got us in touch with like the local rep to try and get some answers. And even then, it still was weeks before things were resolved. I called numerous times and had to wait over 45 minutes each time I called. And I have three small kids, so I don't have time to just like sit around and be on the phone.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.
