I always submit claims online and the most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was about my toilet. It was very easy to submit the claim. And they had someone come out, but it wasn’t repaired correctly. But it was done correctly the second time. However, I’m still having a little problem with it that I need to go back online and get in touch with American Home Shield again about it. Some of the contractors that come out to do the job are more explanatory than others. But my husband said the last one was very good at what he did. He replaced parts on the toilet that needed replacing.

The last time we had the contractor sent by American Home Shield here was for our oven which wasn't working. He came in, repaired that and did a good job. We was knowledgeable and friendly too. During the first time, they had the wrong part and so then he had to order a different one and then got it fixed. I submitted the claim online through their website and it was very easy to do. The rep emailed back that the contractor will be contacting us to set up a time. Since the repair, the oven has been working perfectly fine and everything has been good with it. Whenever we had a problem, they send quality people to come out and fix it. However, AHS does not cover freon of air conditioners while some different companies say they do. Still, they provide great service.

I was having problems with the air conditioning. The conditioning unit turned out to be an air conditioning heat pump. We didn’t know that when we bought the house and it was making some noise. American Home Shield sent out a technician that was an air conditioning specialist only. He described the problem and then he went back to his company and they sent out another technician who had more experience than he did. It turned out to be set aside with the heat pump but they haven't addressed the problem until it's hotter and the air conditioner heat pump goes on automatically. As long as the weather stays cool, they can't fully diagnose the problem due to the cold weather. My experience with American Home Shield has been really good. I'm satisfied. AHS has been very helpful and sent technicians out who are specializing in different fields out to the house, which was great. I would recommend them.

AHS is a good investment to keep people planning ahead for the big problems that they don’t know are coming. There was a time the air conditioner was freezing up and we weren't sure why. I was gonna submit a claim for that online but I ended up doing it over the phone instead, and it was easy. It went great as well with the contractor. He explained everything that was wrong and offered to let me look at it. They got it all done quickly and it was a good experience. Everything has been working great since the repair.

As of today my refrigerator still is broken and supposedly waiting on the part. However, AHS can make sure they have their monthly payment each month but provide the worse service ever. Now I almost wish I had chosen another home warranty company because this one has done nothing but caused secondary damage to my home. As well as provided nothing but inadequate information which are nothing more than lies.

Failure to comply with specifics of home warranty by misrepresenting and omitting the definition of "multi media center" Section H-1. There is no multi media center in my system. It is wired and not digital and not controlled by WiFi. Pool electrical system is controlled by an analog wired CONTROL CENTER and covered by AHS warranty as electrical. AHS exempted from coverage one part of the control center alleging that it is simply NOT COVERED. This part governs the control of the differing pump speeds between spa (fast) and pool (slower).

Updated on 05/02/2018: 26-27 April 2018 home warranty company sent Golden West Pool Repair, the owner, to fix electrical pool issue. Tech worked on control box in my view and manipulated an Intelliflo card which showed active and working with a green light lit. Tech left to order parts, one of which was the one with the green light. That afternoon I was told that part which he burnt out was NOT COVERED by warranty company. Next day one of his employee techs came out, fiddled for an hour+ left not replacing the tech damaged Intelliflo card. Some functions worked for a day then all died. One of several worst pool service companies here. The new pool service repair tech of 2 May verified that that card or module was working at the time the green light was on. Dishonest, unethical, unprofessional. See Google reviews, HiYa and Yelp.

This company was pretty good in the past, but have lost their way. We've been paying them for 5 years at our most recent address and we called them for service and were told "you don't have an account with us". I assumed we had failed to renew and when we sold our home last month, I noticed a charge from AHS on my credit card bill. Looking back, we've never missed a payment. We had coverage, still have coverage. Okay, now try to cancel the service if you sell your home. You get a person who says they have to send you to "Retention", but "Retention" is backed up with heavy calls. Put on hold. Then transferred and it's not "Retention" but a service request specialist who then takes your information for "Retention" to call you back some time in the future. Another frustration point for me. You can open a new account online but you can't cancel your account online.

We had a home warranty with American Home Shield. Our furnace needed to be replaced. We got our own quotes and were comfortable with a couple of contractors. They forced us to use their contractor. Their contractor did not vent the furnace correctly, causing the furnace exhaust to accumulate in our attic instead of outside our house. The plywood in our roof rotted due to condensation in our attic. American Home Shield rep told me that they are not responsible for their contractors' work. They force you to use who they want, but take no responsibility for their work. I strongly urge you to find a different company for the home warranty.

I submitted my claim to American Home Shield online. Their website was really easy. I heard back from someone within 28 hours. The contractor who came here was really good about the issues. He showed up when he said he would and was very efficient. He needed to order a part for it. He had to come here thrice and he was able to fix everything. The dishwasher has worked beautifully since then. Everything was fantastic with the process. It was fixed in three weeks because he had to wait for the parts to come in. I would definitely use that contractor again. He’s fantastic. I will also recommend AHS.

My dryer wouldn’t shut off and I didn’t think it would heat, either. So, I put in the claim for two. I submitted it through Home Shield and they put a request in to Capital One. The rep said Capital one will call me or I could call Capital One. The rep was excellent. She solves your problem right there on the spot. And she seems to have some electronic knowledge too. She said, “Before we send somebody out, did you hit the circuit breaker on it?”, “On a Samsung, a lot of times that will kick it back in and reset it.” I said I did that twice and I turned it off and the whole nine yards. She said she will then send out a serviceman and she set me up for the next day.

And the next day, the contractor came. It was real quick. The contractor said, “It’s heating, but when it shuts itself off, it keeps on running. So you’d have no heat. But it does work." And he said he will just order a new panel for me. So, it’s on order now. I’ve dealt with the contractor before and he's excellent. There was a time, where the appliance was making a strange noise. You could hear it throughout the whole house. It was a scraping noise but it wouldn’t make it all the time. And I figured that when the contractor is here, it would quit making this. So, I recorded the noise on my iPhone.

When he came in, he turned it on and there was no noise. I told him I've recorded it on my iPhone. I turned on the recorded noise and he said, “Oh, I know what it is right off the bat.” So, he took it apart and went in there and fixed it. And he had the part on hand and he was in and out in 20 minutes. The contractor did good. Some companies, sometimes you have to wait about two weeks for them to get serviced to you but the contractor we’ve had has always done it really quick 'cause they will send somebody out from Shelbyville. I would recommend American Home Shield. I’ve got a friend and told them to sign up on the Home Shield some time ago. It’s a nice company. But you gotta use them. That’s the key.

I recently made a plumbing claim and the tech did a very good job. He replaced our garbage disposal and fixed the pipe under our sink. I initially submitted it online, but then I had to call because I needed to add the garbage disposal to the sink repair. And then our toilet also started acting up so I tried to add that on, but he didn’t get that in time. But he still made the flapper where it wouldn’t run so much. I had called prior to him leaving the first job and that claim was supposed to get put on there, but there was a mouse running around the office of American Home Shield and everybody was screaming, except for the lady on the phone with me. She was trying to remain cool because she was on the phone with a customer.

My one real complaint about American Home Shield is that we had an electric panel go out and it blew our refrigerator, but we didn’t know it was the refrigerator so we tried to plug it in the den ‘cause we’d done that before. We tapped down the refrigerator cord because my husband is legally blind and I fall a lot. When the contractor came out to do the refrigerator check, they said it had been tapped down a long time and that the plug in the den was what made the compressor blow out because it was too low powered, which is a bunch of crap. And so, they didn’t pay for the refrigerator. I paid a couple of thousand dollars for the electric and I had to spend $1,000 on a new refrigerator. But most of the time, AHS has been really good. We had an air conditioner claim and they had someone come out and fix it. We’ve also had plumbing and electrical claims that they’ve worked on a couple of times.

I had a plumbing problem and then, we had to fix it with a drywaller because there was a trap in the middle of the wall that led down to the concrete plateau we have here for the house. American Home Shield sent out a contractor. We thought it was a couple of different things and I have found out there was a drain from a sink rather than the shower or the toilet. So, he worked at it. He was very knowledgeable but we had a tough problem to solve. He was out here three times, but we got it fixed. We finally tracked down the exact location where the drainage was and since the repair, there hasn't been any leak. I've had American Home Shield for 20 years now and I've filed claims online and I've called as well. Their prices keep going up, though. When they started out, it was $37 a service call. And now, it's $75 a service call and $575 a year instead of $350. But I have no trouble with them aside from the prices.

It took quite a long time for me to get the service that I needed. I called American Home Shield first and said that I needed my freezer and dishwasher fixed. But I wanted it to be in one swoop with one company so that I had only have to pay $75. I was not going to put out $150 to have two different people come out. AHS said it was not a problem, yet they got me in touch with two different companies and both could only do one of my claims. So, by the time that was all said and done, I was totally frustrated and I gave up.

Then, I called back because the dishwasher still wasn’t working well and neither was the freezer. AHS got me Black Diamond and that company said that they could do both items, so that worked out well. But then it took almost a month for me to find out what was going on. Apparently, the gentleman who came out and diagnose had to leave town on an emergency. The paperwork didn’t get in until a week later and I lived through that whole thing. The repair got done by the end of March.

I spoke to a rep at one time and she was fantastic. She did really well calming me down and explaining what was going on. She assured me that something would happen, and it did. But I do not know if I would renew my contract with them only because I’m at their mercy just like any of the other ones. AHS decides on what they’re going to fix and what they’re not. They would not cover my dishwasher where you have to push the button and get the thing to go. They told the technician that that would be something that may be fixed if the dishwasher went out again. AHS is in the business to make money and lose money at the same time and I understand their business model to a certain degree. But I’m not going to be taken advantage of. I’d rather put 75 bucks away a month, making a bit of interest so when I need something repaired, I can get it done on my own. Overall, all went well but I most likely will not renew with AHS, not for 500 and something bucks.

We had a dishwasher problem. A rubber gasket was put behind it. And then, the back of the refrigerator was drowning. Submitting a claim for it was easy. I called AHS and they sent someone out to fix the dishwasher, however, they didn't cover the refrigerator because the insulation was compromised, which was freaking ridiculous. I called the manufacturer of the refrigerator and there was a recall on it. So they came and helped and they glued a piece of foam rubber, three inches thick, to the back of the refrigerator.

I had another claim where the ice maker stopped working. The ice maker was frozen at the motor in the exact same spot where the rust was. The tech put a hair dryer in there and defrosted it. I'm just waiting for the refrigerator to break again. The insulation is causing the condensation and the condensation is freezing. The refrigerator is gonna break. I called one claim in and did two online. The one I called in, I was on hold an hour. Then I figured I had to do it online. Their response, as well as their technicians, are excellent. Both technicians they've sent were astonished that AHS was not replacing the refrigerator.

I believe that AHS has a good product, but they have too many clauses, disclaimers and loopholes in it. They don't cover this, they don't cover that. And in my mind, it's sold with the purpose to say that the buyer will not have a large expense on the first year, and it does not. I read the whole thing and there are clauses in almost everything. I don't care if it's the insulation or the handle falls off my refrigerator, I expect it to be fixed. It's an insurance policy. Also, dealing with the upper levels of American Home Shield is a waste of time. I wrote a letter to their realtor, someone I was working with at AHS. I said that one might as well give the money to the buyer of the house instead of spending it on the contract with American Home Shield.

The first claim I had was for my glass stovetop which was on gas. I was boiling water one day and the glass just popped. So, I called AHS and asked if they can replace the glass for the stovetop. A guy came to inspect and accused me that I broke the glass and it was deliberate. So I called back AHS and said, “I’ll just cancel the contract. No use for me anyway.” Then, someone called me from American Home Shield telling me that that was what the contractor told me. The rep suggested that she can send another inspector and it was going to be another $75. I told her no. I can use the money to buy a new one.

I called AHS back and they sent me to their retention number. I spoke to a guy and I said that I don’t see any use for the contract. I thought it’s an insurance because I just bought the house to insure the appliances there already. I requested to have it cancelled and just refund me, prorate the policy and use that money to buy a new one, which I already did. But then, the guy said that he’ll just give me a credit back in case I need something else. Then, I had another problem with the AC as there was no air coming out of the vents. I was cancelling the warranty but the rep was able to talk me into not cancelling and then sent another technician. At that time, the AC was getting worse. The contractor turned the AC on. It looked like it was working, but there was no air coming in. I can just hear the motor running outside the house.

It was another week till a guy came and he was good. He was able to fix the AC. Now, the AC’s been working fine. He changed a motor where it’s blowing the air and then he added some Freon. He charged me two pounds of Freon and I paid it. It’s an old AC so, it was okay. I was happy because the first guy looked crabby. I just happened to have a bad experience on the very first claim but the second time was good.

They made it very clear that to get it done, I have to authorize the predetermined amount for the dispatch. Plus, it was very easy to select what system was affected and I could give a couple of sentences of detail. Then it moved on to authorizing. Quality Appliance contacted me very shortly after I put in the claim. I made the appointment based on my own availability, which turned out to be within a week.

He was exactly what I was looking for to come out and fix our problems. It was a very positive experience. Everything was as expected, and they resolved it with a few fixes that I could not have done myself without too much of a hoopla, so it was perfect.

Our refrigerator died and I called AHS to file a claim, and everybody was pleasant and direct. They told me that they were sorry to hear about what happened, told me what it would cost, and if I wanted to pay right then or later. I was satisfied with them. However, I wasn't terribly happy because it took me over a week to get somebody out. And then, it took another week before they could get the part. So I was without a refrigerator for two weeks. I had to throw out food twice and I had to pay for a refrigerator rental. My problem with AHS is that there ought to be some way to facilitate getting their contractors to come out within a certain period of time. I see no reason that it'd take a whole week to get somebody out for a busted refrigerator. Also, it would have been appropriate that if there's nothing resolved within four days, they should have followed up with me. They referred me to someone immediately, but there was zero follow-up from them.

AHS said that they couldn't repair my oven. So I've ordered a new one which has been over two weeks ago. But I still haven't heard from them since and I'm still waiting for the oven. I haven't been in contact with them as well because they're not that easy to talk with. I get all those recordings and go through it. I've called them before when I was trying to check on the process and we get cut-off. Then I gotta call back, get another claims person and tell the whole story all over again. Finally I said I wanted a direct line number. They transferred me but said their lines were having trouble, couldn't take any calls at that time and hung up. But the contractor company that came out to give me the initial quote was fine and the tech was very professional. It's just with American Home Shield that I'm frustrated and not very happy with. I've never had problems with repair service but this replacement deal has been a nightmare.

The microwave over the stove and the stove were in need to be looked at. And when I was trying to fill out the claim online at American Home Shield, my computer was freezing. I started by typing to the describe the microwave oven. I put in there as well the oven because it was shortening out. It was cutting off, and the microwave was not heating up food. Whatever happened, it did not go through with me online. I called back twice before the third time I called and it got rectified with an agent. But, between that time, the tech came out to try to see what went through. However, I kept being put on hold and I would get disconnected, and then the representative did not call me back.

When the technician from Hotpoint came out and when I told him about the oven, he said that wasn’t on his ticket. I told him that was what I was requesting too because it was both of it. It was on top of each other. The third representative from AHS told me to call them and let them know to get the ticket fixed or if he could not, he would not be able to service the oven and see that something was wrong with it. When I got put on hold this time, I did not get disconnected and she ended up calling the tech guy, and he explained everything. And then she went back to me and it was as simple as that. It was supposed to be different and she fixed it so it was okay. It got added on to the ticket. I’m now waiting to hear back from the servicing agent to set up a time cause he still had to submit the claim for the microwave because it had quite a few things wrong with it. It started smoking and smelling burnt when he was testing it out.

Overall, American Home Shield is convenient and it has a fair cost. Although I had to call three times for something that is simple, they came out and they were able to fix it with no problems. They explained to me what the problem was. The company’s been good at communicating, and the contractors come when they say they are going to come. So, I would recommend AHS.

He tried to get a part, came back a couple of days later and he did what he said what he was going to do. On the other hand, we had a previous call and the garbage disposal guy never showed up so that wasn’t so good. A friend of mine suggested I do something and I decided to look. It was something that was fairly easy to take care of myself.

Other than that, I find it unbelievable that you pay $70 a month for the warranty and then when you call, you pay another $85 for the service call. That's theoretically what the monthly fee is paid for. Also, it seems we are paying monthly for a service call that only comes out once a year. So far, they have always managed to just keep a band-aid on everything. But I'm anxious to see what happens if I have to make a real replacement claim.

The appliance claim I filed with American Home Shield hasn’t been resolved yet. They told me that I either have to buy one of their washers or I'd be reimbursed if I bought another one. However, I wasn’t sure how I’d go about getting my money back, how much I’ll get back, etc. I was calling to see how I'd go about doing that and I couldn't get anybody to answer the phone. The contractor, Family First, were okay at first but they started going slow as well. They were the other one that I had kept having to call because they would either not answer the phone or kept getting me to run around. I still haven’t got a washer or dryer yet and I don’t want that I won't get the maximum amount of money back.

I was reading something on American Home Shield's page on the email they sent me about a situation if I bought my own washer. The one that they sent me were lesser washers and they’re smaller than what I have. I don’t wanna get anything like that and I wanna get the top of the line now. Something that’s comparable sitting in my area but what they have was a step back and I don't wanna go backwards. So, I'm gonna purchase the one I wanted. It’s about $900 for the washer and they said that at first I would get $474 back. But if I purchase it myself, I was gonna lose money and I was wondering why. This is a very shocking experience because I’ve never ever had a problem with American Home Shield with anything else.

Our water heater wasn’t working properly, and the claim was submitted to American Home Shield over the phone. Typically in the past, AHS required a deductible of $100 to be paid to the technician that came out. But AHS has since changed that where you now pay them the deductible. The company that was sent out, Milan Mechanical, was very professional and the tech was extremely friendly and very polite. They diagnosed the problem and found that whoever installed it previously installed an energy saving timer, a manual timer that would set AM and PM. The timer had not been working properly so it wasn’t turning the water heater on and off, and we were able to disconnect that and hook it up.

We've also used Milan Mechanical for our air conditioning unit that went bad. They came out and diagnosed it and wrote up an estimate. I ended up using a family friend to replace the unit, but the gentleman that came was extremely nice to my wife. I’m happy that there’s a company out there such as American Home Shield because it really allows people to repair items in their home without having to pay astronomical prices right upfront.

Initially they were pretty responsive and professional, but as the years went by, they became much less responsive and downright rude. After 7 years they are more than happy to take your payment premiums, but less and less likely to approve any repairs. The last straw with me came when I needed to repair/replace my hot water heater. The company they sent installed a defective heater which leaked almost immediately. When I called to report the problem, they were argumentative and dismissive. After weeks of leaking, I called them once again to report the defective hot water heater.

In the end, they did not stand behind the hot water heater that they installed and told me "too bad, it's your problem now." Their phone reps are rude and unprofessional "**". They have no customer loyalty and no care for problems that they are responsible for. I fired them immediately and cancelled any bank drafts. I guess at one time they were a good company, but as times have changed, they have changed to the negative aspect of business practices. YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. The worst thing about AHS though is the wait time. If I ever need to change my appointment or I have issues, the wait time could be over an hour and a half. Also, my dishwater needs a follow-up but I don’t have time to wait for the contractor to show up. It’s hard for me to stay home all day. During another time, the water heater broke and it took about four days for the rep to get out here. There’s a kink in their system where once the rep takes the claim, they have three days to reach out to the customer and that’s an issue especially if it’s an emergency service. Still, AHS is a good deal and a good value.

I've had to file multiple claims to American Home Shield. I have one of those kitchen faucets that when you touch, it turns on and off. And Still Waters Plumbing was there for that. It was pretty quick to get the contractor out and I was impressed. Since the repair, the kitchen faucet has been working great. But my biggest complaint is that the contractor has to wait for parts from a specific supplier or source rather than using a local source part. So, my kitchen faucet was not working for a week or two. That's a problem but it's stuff I can live with. I had the same thing with my ice maker recently. They had to order the part, so I didn't have ice for two weeks. Also, I've had some other issues lately with my washer and dryer.

I'm trying to figure out how to change my policy right now and I don't think there's a way. American Home Shield has a Pick 10 where I pick 10 appliances or services under my contract. I know it's up sometime in May and I wanted to change the mix of what's covered because my dishwasher was recently replaced, so I don't really think it needs to be on the list. Overall though, I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I had three toilets repeatedly clogging up and overflowing and it would take us a good day before we could get them undone. So, we were bombing it with baking soda and vinegar, and dish soap. We also tried to snake it and nothing happened. The last time, it took us too long to get it undone. We didn’t think we were gonna get it done so we decided that it’s for the home warranty people to handle. We called American Home Shield and they sent out Steinberger. They used to use Billio Plumbing which were nice and honest.

The first guy from Steinberger didn’t really look. He flushed both of the toilets and of course they flushed good except for the one upstairs was kind of slow. And then, he looked at the roof from outside on the ground, he came back in and said we needed new toilets. He said we needed the air-assist flushing because the venting isn’t good. Since they were gonna replace the toilet, I knew we were gonna have to pay the difference. We wanted to get the tall ones and it was $235 for both. It was a little pricey but that’s fine so I told him to go ahead. When they replaced them, the guy that originally showed up came in and showed the gentleman who’s gonna be replacing the two. And then he left. I didn’t see him for the rest of the day and then he called the guy that was working here. He asked him to tell us that it’s gonna be $19 each for the water hookup to go from the shutoff valve to the tank.

That should be covered according to what I read in the warranty so, my husband called American Home Shield and told them we have this problem. Before he called them, the guy said we have to send him $314. And my husband was told him that what he said was $235 and if you add roughly $40, that’s not $314. He is telling us something different now and I told him we’re not paying until he gives me a receipt. Once they email it, I will be happy to write a check. He said American Home Shield doesn’t pay for the upgrade for the whole system. I told him I understand paying for the toilets because we got the tall and the long ones but it was him who said we have to have the air-assist because of the venting and that was a must to the toilet or it will continue to overflow no matter what toilet we put in here and it sounds like a covered issue.

He saw that I got a little pissy so my husband said he’s gonna call American Home Shield and so, he did. The lady didn’t know what my husband was talking about. The guy hadn’t even sent them his diagnoses yet and when my husband told the guy that, he became really abrupt and said that we were trying to scam him. My husband told him that it was what American Home Shield told us. He said he will talk to them. We told him to go ahead since it’s what the lady told us. AHS said they would call us and they haven’t called us yet. My husband said to just pay the guy to be done with him and we’ll talk to American Home Shield about it later. That’s pretty much where we’ve left it. I’ve called them this morning because the one toilet downstairs is leaking out of the tank and they haven’t called me back yet.

I had to go by the guy's office because he told me the receipt would be ready and it wasn’t. He told me he was gonna come by our house that day when I got home from my appointment and he never showed up. He said that he didn’t have to come and when I went to his office it was a soft storage facility. It wasn’t even a office. It was very weird so it was very uncomfortable but that’s okay. The toilets actually have flushed and we haven’t had any overflowing incident yet except for this leaking tank that he is not calling me back on. I hope he does because I don’t wanna pay American Home Shield another $75 for them to send somebody else out when it should be all taken care of. Other than them not calling me when they said they would, I have no complaints with American Home Shield.

I had some toilet backup for which I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. There was a bit of frustration on the online portal because I also had a shower head that needed to be looked at, and there was no place to address it. The online portal is not very thorough in being able to list complaints and there's nothing dealing with showers or bathtubs. The only thing they had was a leak option. So, though it was not really a leak but a shower head that was not working properly, I had to put it down as a leak. And of course, when the plumber got here, that wasn't on the ticket. They told me I need to call American Home Shield back and open up another ticket because they were never told about this on the original ticket. And I got a follow-up call, which was good, and I told them what happened.

Another frustrating thing was that the first contractor who came told me that the toilets needed to be replaced and it's not a covered part on the deal. And he wanted to charge me 600 bucks extra. That doesn't make sense to me because the house is only two years old and it's brand new. It just seemed like he wanted to try and get some extra money. So, I called American Home Shield back and they said, "Okay. We'll send out a second opinion." And then the second contractor they sent out was able to address the problem and without additional charges. The guy just snaked it properly and now it's working fine. Overall, I've been very happy with American Home Shield. It's worked out really well.

She put in a service request for me right away, then the plumbing company called me to set up a time. This plumbing company was so much better than the one that American Home Shield had sent us before. The techs who came were very helpful and professional. They did a good job which was executed very quickly as well. I was then charged the call fee and that was it. Overall, we've been happy with American Home Shield. They've provided their customers with very good service. I'd tell people to go with them.

My AC people discovered a problem in the heating part of the AC so they came in, told me about it, and called AHS. They got the work order and everything and I went ahead and wrote them a check for my deductible and they fixed it. The contractors were great. They were two young men from Advanced Appliance, and I told my husband, "We finally got somebody out here that they talk to you, number one, where you can understand it. Number two is I felt like they were very competent in what they were doing." Sometime before, my old refrigerator gave out on me and they were very prompt about that. Another time, they also fixed the hot pot on my sink once then replaced it. AHS has always come through for me and I highly recommend them.

My renter keeps telling me there’s something wrong with the dryer and he keeps putting in claims for it on all kinds of issues. But Alpha Appliance, the contractor sent by AHS, has been out several times for that dryer and they never found anything wrong with it, even during the last time they came out, after I sent the claim in. At that time, the contractor's service was good. The technician inspected the whole dryer and I was very happy with him.

Everybody at AHS has been very polite and the service has been quick, although sometimes I had to wait for a part. I’m at the point where I’m starting to do some contract renewals and, right now, I’m looking for which warranty company is the least expensive in terms of the price and how much we have to pay every time a contractor comes out. So, those are my two, big considerations. I have three companies that I’m going to look at and AHS is definitely one of them. I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield.

I’ve been back and forth with someone ever since the latter part of March and no one has come out to actually fix my dishwasher. I’ve called them at least four times and they’ve told me that someone would contact within 24 hours but no one has contacted me until now.

I'm a long time American Home Shield customer. Sometimes the warranty has been helpful, and sometimes things haven't been too great. The main problem is when the unit is covered under the plan but some of its parts are not covered, so you'll never know what you will expect. The last time I called in to submit a claim, it was for my broken water heater. The contractor who came was extremely rude. He practically didn’t explain anything nor answer any question. It looked like he didn’t want to do the job. He just told me that people from American Home Shield would call me, and that he told them that the repair would be expensive and he would need to work a lot. He also mentioned that he knows quotes and he cannot build for a reasonable price according to quotes. But all the explanation I should hear from American Home Shield as he declined to give one.

I went to another company and they decided that they've completed the job, but the work was still not completed. The new heater didn't fit. It was not covered too. I called them and they promised me to call back, yet I didn't receive any call. I've also called American Home Shield many times. And from the time that they directed me to the approval department, I've had no problems. The people there were very collaborative. They also explained everything.

Our refrigerator stopped cooling. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and their site was very user-friendly. I submitted the request for service, for someone to come out and look at the fridge, on a Saturday and I had someone come and look at it on Monday, so the turnaround was great. The contractor was out here for 20 minutes and figured out that the problem was with the condenser, then called American Home Shield right away to let them know how much it was gonna cost to fix the fridge. I got an email from American Home Shield within 48 hours telling me my options for the refrigerator and they ended up offering to replace the whole unit.

Everything with this claim started last week and the new refrigerator is getting installed this coming Friday, so the claims process took a total of two weeks. It sucks not having a refrigerator but we were able to go with getting the new fridge for the time being, so it has been fine. I'm very pleased with the way that American Home Shield handled our situation. I highly recommend getting a home warranty and I would recommend American Home Shield, especially for any person who is buying a home that isn't brand new.

Now the A/C is working perfectly. I had another claim because of some stuff in the kitchen. The techs came and there was nothing wrong with it, and they just took off. Our first claim with American Home Shield was for the dryer and that went very smoothly. The guy came out and fixed it right away. Then, we had a claim for the water heater and they also came out right away. They let us know that there was nothing we could do to solve it and we needed to buy a booster. We were pleased with the result and the information they provided us.

The third was that the ice maker wasn't working so I filed a claim online. The online system is pretty self-explanatory. I had to include the refrigerator maker and what was wrong with it. They sent an acknowledgment email and then the next day, we talked on the phone. It was two weeks when the contractor first came out and the interaction with him was very pleasant. He checked the whole refrigerator, the ice maker, and the connection to the water line. We have a two-door refrigerator and he determined in about 30 or 40 minutes that he needed to replace the left door with the ice maker in it. He ordered the part and that was when things got a little complicated.

He said he would replace it right away but they've given us four different delivery dates and four different installation dates and it hasn't been done yet. We had the first date pretty quickly but they cancelled saying the part wasn't in yet and that has happened four times. At this point, it's primarily between me and the vendor. He didn't call and leave a message the first two times. The third and the fourth time, I had to call American Home Shield to find out that the delivery date had again been cancelled and postponed. The communication has sort of dried up in the last week but I'm still confident that they will deliver the part.

Having a warranty is so valuable because I just had an expensive thing break. My most recent claim was for the water heater and this claim was excellent. But on my very first claim that was for a toilet, I got a really bad plumber who refused to fix it. And he said he had to call AHS for their permission to come back another time. So I had to call back, but that guy had booked himself out for a month. When American Home Shield tried to book him back, they said that he was on an extended vacation, so I thought that he didn’t want to come back to see me. Then AHS got me another plumber who was great. He right away said that the repair needed to happen and it will be done in 20 minutes.

Then when I realized the water heater broke on a Friday morning and the laundry room floor kept filling up with water, I called American Home Shield to see what I should do and asked them if I could get that same plumber but they said they weren’t supposed to do that. And I told them that they had sent him in the first place and then they asked if he was an AHS plumber and I said yes and that I really wanted somebody I could trust.

So AHS set an appointment for that same plumber on a Monday. But it was causing extra damage so it was important to get it done that Saturday. I called AHS back and asked them if they could get a plumber out on a Saturday and their rep was really nice about it and looked into and made it happen. So I was totally happy. Also, the plumber texted me to see how everything was and if everything was okay even if it was his day off. That is the type of worker I want. I will be always calling him and I'm gonna use him forever even after my warranty expires. When you have good people that worked for you, it's such a winning thing for everybody.

I put in what I needed and they had somebody call me within 24 business hours. However, I had an issue with the vendor that they had. There was a mixed-up between them. I called and the vendor ended up charging me a little extra. I have had three contractors come out and they've all been wonderful. This incident happened when they sent somebody out again to re-do a repair. It wasn't a big deal, but when I called them about it, they were great and they ended up refunding me. They were qualified and knew what they were doing, so it has been a good experience.

American Home Shield is transparent. I have heard from people that other warranty companies sometimes say that they are going to cover things but they do not exactly cover things. My cooktop is a Viking so it is expensive. I was figuring that maybe they would cap it out at a certain cost because it is more expensive than the average cooktop to fix, but they honored everything. With AHS, I had my furnace, dryer and the cooktop fixed. They do exactly as they said they would. They exceed expectation.

It turned out to be a leak in the cement, which is not covered so I had to pay for that repair. But AHS covered the replacement of some tubing that's on the pump system, which is above the ground. And the people that they recommended were very nice. They were very punctual and they kept us informed of what was going on. American Home Shield was very efficient in handling the claim. They were cooperative and didn't drag their feet on it. They told me who to call so that I could set up with our schedules too. And that was perfectly acceptable. It's easier that way for everybody concerned. I was very happy with their service.

We signed up with American Home Shield on the recommendation of our neighbor and we have recommended it to friends too. AHS was available, treated us with respect and gave us the information for what we needed to do. You can save a lot of money in the long run by covering major expenses down the road. Before we got AHS, we had replaced the hot water heater and a few things like that. For the amount of money that you pay, it isn't nearly what an icemaker or a refrigerator cost.

I like them and they were good overall. It’s very efficient and the plumber gets right to the problem. I recommended my mom to use AHS and she said she liked it. She signed up with them.

The first home issue that we had was a leak, and a plumber was called out. They looked at the issue and told us that the pipe would not be fixed and he put tape around it and left. (We could've done that ourselves). Then we had a problem with lights going out all throughout our house. There was obviously a deeper electrical issue that needed to be resolved, but the electrician that was sent told us that we are going to have to replace a light fixture and one pull switch on another fan light. But when I talked to American Home Shield they said that they didn't cover light fixtures. I explained that I needed the electrician to look into the deeper issue and not just a light fixture. Well, because I didn't have a ticket for that they were going to create a another ticket and send a different electrician out for a second opinion and then charge us another $75.

I have yet to have an issue with my home that American Home Shield has completely resolved without having to call a separate plumber or electrician on my own. What a waste of money! Not to mention the girl on the phone was coughing into the phone the whole time, and whenever I asked to talk to a manager she refused.

After having some initial issues (see prior review) I was contacted by a representative. After reviewing the notes of the incident they said they understood this was a special case.
In the end, they resolved the issues to my satisfaction and they stood behind the service of their contractors.

Like I said in my last review, it's easy to be a good company when things are good, the true measure is how they perform when things go bad. In this instance, their performance was excellent. I am impressed and happy with the results.

    Original Review: April 24, 2018

An earlier review was submitted, but the service wasn't done yet... now we have a problem. The best indication of a company isn't how they respond when things are good but rather how they respond when there is a problem. When the first technician came out he said the refrigerant was empty. I suggested that it indicates a leak, he said he couldn't find one - so I had to pay to have it filled (AHS only covers up to $10 lb). Not ecstatic about it, but I understood. We had some problems with the technician (after 2 visits) and when we had a new problem, when we contacted AHS we asked them to send a different technician which they did.

I explained the history of all this to each of the 3 next technicians (who were all much more pleasant and professional than the first technician). I explained that from my limited understanding, if you are EMPTY there is likely a leak - they all agreed. When the last technician came to the house (who once again was professional and pleasant), the tank was empty again (after less than 3 weeks from the prior filling, with 2 service calls in between). He found the leak in about 5 minutes because it was a large, obvious leak once you looked, but then he had to refill it. My assumption is that I paid once, it would not be reasonable to think I should have to pay again... I mean I am having the same company come out - AHS. I am not on their board and do not decide who they contract with, they do.

When he finished he presented me with a bill for $935! Apparently they charge $95/lb. For reference: If you look online you will see cost is about $150 for a 25 lb canister or about $6/lb. I understand a company needs to sell above cost... but a %1400 markup? It's not like I had an opportunity to shop around, get quotes, etc. The technician who came to my house was obviously competent and pleasant whereas the original technician caused the 3rd service call and didn't spot an obvious leak. My contacted the company (AHS) to explain our situation. Their representative just kept stating "not our responsibility". At this point I'm out another $935. I could have paid someone reasonable out of my own pocket for the repair AND the refrigerant for less than that, so why do I have this warranty? At this point I feel like we were played. I'm extremely disappointed.

A new refrigerator would have been cheaper!! I'm losing about $2000 worth of wages and food!! The contractor they finally signed me up with, cannot come out to look at my broken refrigerator, till April 27th, which is 10 days from now. I will have to lose a whole other day of work, and I will lose about $500 dollars worth of food by then. Total cost to me will end up being about $2,000.00 in lost wages, and lost food!!! A new refrigerator would have been cheaper!! After a technician finally comes out here to look at this refrigerator, they will most likely tell me that I need a new refrigerator and American Home Shield will only cover about $500 dollars toward a new refrigerator, so I will also have to pay another $1500 on top of the $2,000 dollars I have already lost!!

I have been a general contractor/Plumber/Electrician in the Seattle area, with a base degree in electronic engineer. For the past 15 years, I have about 1000 customers that I have been doing business with who ask me about home warranty services all the time. I have also been contacted by several home warranty companies, asking me to do work for their customers, but they do not pay enough to even cover my costs of doing business in the Seattle area, this is why they cannot provide quality service, in a timely manner!!

I didn't like the company they sent, however. The guy did the job fast, but he said he finished the job because he broke up something outside of my house. I was told that they can fix it, so I had to keep calling them and reporting the person to come out. But every time I call, they tell me that they couldn't help me and that their systems were down and that all they could do is take a bill. Otherwise, I have to go through the automatic machine. I didn't like that either. They should update that so-called system. But I would still recommend AHS.

We bought the house three years ago. I took out the home warranty from another company then and their price went up quite a bit, so I searched around and got American Home Shield. Recently, the circuit board went out on the blower and furnace. I submitted a claim online and the website was pretty user-friendly. The contractor came in late in the day and he checked to see what the issue was. He didn’t have the equipment with him at the time, but he came by to see if it was an issue that he could fix without his equipment. He came back the next day with his equipment to test it and then he had to order the circuit board since it wasn’t something he could get locally. It took longer because it was over the weekend, but he got it fixed in four days.

The air conditioner and the heater were about 15 years old. It operates real well now ‘cause we just replaced all of it. All we've ever used AHS for is the heating and air conditioning unit, and when I had all that replaced, I just discontinued the warranty since I don’t want it anymore. If a friend wanted to get a home warranty, AHS would not be a bad company to get one from. But all home warranty companies are pretty much the same. Regardless of what’s wrong with the equipment, they’ll do whatever they can to keep it running. It nickels-and-dimes you for the service call and then with your monthly or yearly fee, you’re out of that money too. If someone continually has experience with issues, it might be worth it. Either that or just get a new unit, which is what I did.

Out of the three claims that I've had with American Home Shield, the first claim was a pleasurable experience. This claim was to repair the air conditioning system that was supposed to have been repaired last year. When submitting claims, I try to do it over the phone with the rep, but every time I call, I usually get some uneducated person in the state of Georgia who wants to do absolutely nothing for anybody. And they sound like they show racial bias into everything. They need to have a call center with people that are willing to work with customers and they need to have more than two people working at a time so you're not stuck on hold trying to get a hold of a representative for an hour and a half.

But the contractors have been informative. And a few of the contractors that I've had have said about the lack of quality American Home Shield likes to promote and have and deal with the customers. In my most recent experience, the contractor also seemed to actually know what they were doing, and was very pleasurable to work with. It seems like American Home Shield is trying to make a change of things and turn things about. So, as long as they can do right and they're actually making strides to go in the right direction, I have no problems staying with them and possibly even referring them to other people. But if that one-time experience that I have with them is going to be like what I've had in the past, there are other alternative companies out there.

I was new to my home when I moved this time last year and being a first-time homeowner, I've haven't had the best experience with American Home Shield. The chain on the toilet broke. I called AHS and they asked me to pay a $75 fare to get it fixed. I got to put my information in the system and then someone called me and they asked me about the certain days available. I picked one and they came out and performed the duty. The man that came out to fix the toilet was very knowledgeable. He fixed not only the chains, but he put a new rubber piece on the bottom of the inside of the bowl. He said that it’ll prevent the water from leaking and draining.

The other contractor that came to fix my dishwasher also did a good job. They cleaned my dishwasher and they took it out, took a toothbrush and cleaned the inside of it. They said it will work well. But once they were gone, I attempted to use the dishwasher the next week and I had the same problem. My dishes were not getting cleaned and neither were they drying, and it's still not drying. The tech recommended a certain liquid to get to assist in preventing water from remaining on the dishes so I went and I purchased them but it's still not draining the dishes. Now, what I do is I just scrub the dishes down real good. I put them in the dishwasher and I let them wash. After the drying process is over, I open the dishwasher up and I just dry them.

I'm not pleased with the service. If the dishes were not drying, the dishwasher's not fixed. The toilet that the young man came out and fixed, this is the second time that it broke in a year. AHS came out and fixed it before and it broke again right away. Get AHS because it's convenient when it comes to something broken. But shop around if there’s something else out there you can get that works like American Home Shield. I'm going to consider the pricing of something else as well before I renew them.

We’ve used AHS as many as four times a year on various things and generally, my interaction with the contractors has been pretty good. I only had one disappointing experience. It happened to be the garage door opener. The guy who came out didn’t do a lot and he just got the thing working again. And then I had another problem with it and they sent somebody else out because I said I don’t want to see this guy again.

The guy they sent out was really good. He was the systems guy and he did the whole thing. He went and lubricated the springs on that door and so I was very pleased with the work that he had done. I had another problem where the train came off and they sent the same guy. Once again, he performed superbly. However, I just stopped American Home Shield's service. We submitted our claim on the AHS online app and they called us and scheduled to come out and take care of it.

We had a great communication with the contractors who came out here. They took care of everything and explained everything that they were doing. They came in and did the look and tried a couple of things and they finally found it. The people who were working on our house before it was sold were putting in some paneling in the bathroom and they put a nail through a pipe. The contractors were able to ID that and get that taken care of for us. It's completely been fixed. We don't have to worry about walking down slipping in a puddle of water in the basement or anything or have to keep an eye on which shower you can use.

One of the last big jobs was when the electrician came here. I was having trouble with things cutting on and off and not being able to turn on my ceiling lights. The electricity was not working properly and the switch on the box kept flipping. I have a 93-year-old father and our fireplace wasn’t working. It was a big mess and he was cold. He came out but it wasn’t repaired. We called and trying to get through to someone was horrible. We were on hold for two to three hours. They finally sent a different company, supervisor-type person, and he came out twice. But the problem then became that the freezer that was frost-free supposedly of this very expensive refrigerator started freezing up. All of our food was ruined. It was completely frozen solid for three months.

We called and called but we could never get through so I went on American Home Shield’s Facebook page and made a comment. I instantly received a notification from their media representative, Daryl. Apparently, the way to get through American Home Shield is to say something not good about them on their page on Facebook because then action happens. After I made the connection on Facebook, Daryl called me. I also gave him my husband’s number. We went around about a month back and forth. They decided after investigating that they couldn’t repair it. And as per the agreement, if they can't repair it, they replace it. We received a replacement refrigerator this week but it took five months.

I’ve been with AHS for a long time and mostly they do pretty well. This last experience I got a stopped-up toilet and there was a problem in my availability. I called them to tell them that I couldn’t be there and we would have to reschedule it. I didn’t hear from them until the next morning they showed up at my front door and said that they were there and I wasn’t home. So I called them and they were pretty unpleasant about it. Then American Home Shield sent a second plumber, one that we had had before and it went fine. That plumber was excellent. He showed up on time and he did what he said. Generally, I’m pretty satisfied with them. They’re professional, typically show up on time and do what they’re supposed to do.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my dryer. I did it online and it was very easy navigating their website. The technician that came out looked at the dryer, fixed the problem plus did some preventive stuff and replaced every moving part underneath the drum of the dryer. Since then, the dryer has been working great. Having a warranty on your property is absolutely the best thing. When the boiler needed to be fixed during the winter, the guy actually came on a Saturday because it was cold and he did everything in his power to make sure we had heat. They fixed our air conditioner, too. The only thing that has changed was how much I have to pay upfront for each job. Other than that, I would recommend this company to everybody who owns a home because stuff happens, and I will tell a friend that they should have them.

We're satisfied with their work and timeliness. We have been with AHS for over three years now and found them always to be very efficient and professional. Our heating system stopped working sporadically. Once during wintertime, I had it set it on 69 but it was reading 64 degrees, so I played with the thermostat. I turned it off and on. At one point, I turned it off for about half an hour and when I turned it back on, it seemed to be working again. Then, twice now in the warm weather when it’s on cool mode, my daughter had set it on a 76 and she went to bed, it was reading 76. Everything was working fine but she woke up and it was 81.

I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield and everybody was helpful and everything was done very timely. When the first contractor came out, I was out of town, so I wasn’t able to speak with him and he didn’t spend a lot of time here at all. He didn’t even go up in the attic and he was only here for about 15 minutes. He told my daughter that he thought it was the reversing valve, but he didn’t think that it would be approved because by the time he got there, it started working again. I was trying to find out what led him to think that because AHS was willing to approve that, but it was gonna end up costing me money because I had to pay for all the freon they had to put back in.

I was trying to speak to the tech to find out exactly how valid his diagnosis was but I wasn’t able to speak with him, so I requested a second opinion. The second guy that came out was wonderful. He was very explanatory. It turned out that one of the wires was loose. So, every time the unit kicked off and on, it shakes a little bit and that was causing it to not complete the circuit. My experience with AHS went well. I like the tech that came out and everything on American Home Shield was handled great.

American Home Shield has been fine, but their vendors are not. They should never use one particular vendor. It was a nightmare. We had a leak in the house so I called AHS and then, they called a plumber and the plumber told me that I need a leak detection company. So they sent out Myers Plumbing but they told me that they don’t have the ability for leak detection.

Eventually, they were able to get a leak detection company who came out and found the leak and he went to fix the problem. However, he was deceptive in the process. He doubled the price but in claims, we were charged three times and then he tried to hide the part that he tried to put everything back together without the part needed and that caused our water heater to have a terrible leak. Now I have ceiling damage and possible black mold. It turned into a big, ugly mess. American Home Shield was not much of a help. They said that was between me and the vendor. The only thing they can do is not use them again and I will make sure that that company doesn’t come back to my home. I will just find somebody else. Eventually, it was repaired by another plumber. All in all, if friends would ask about American Home Shield, I would tell them they’re good. But I will tell them not to get Myers to come to their homes as well.

A month later, I called back and they were very helpful at AHS. I said that the AC was not working right. Someone came and they said it was missing a part and they were able to fix it. It’s a great program. But the contractor could’ve been honest that they couldn’t find the issue the first time around.

I submitted a claim for it and we could't get anybody out here for quite a while. Then, when someone came out, it still wasn't working. The guy had to come 3 times and it could've been even better. He had to tear it apart and to wait for a part and then he had to come back out and replaced the part. He repaired it but I was without a washing machine for a month or so. Right now, we're in the process of making sure that it's working properly since it doesn't seem to be spinning like it's supposed to all the time.

I really enjoy American Home Shield's service. It's always come through for us without giving us a problem. Also, the contractors they sent have always been fine. The tech for the washing machine has always showed up when they said he was gonna be here. Then, at my workplace, I mentioned American Home Shield to a person who was searching for a homeowner's insurance. I explained that it's very affordable and it's well worth it. It's $75 for somebody to come out and check what's wrong. As long as it's not a maintenance issue then they take care of it. Other than that, then we have to pay for maintenance.

I've been with AHS since August of last year and I've had a good experience. I've submitted my claims over the phone, but getting through to customer service has been a challenge. One time, there was a 20-minute wait and I couldn’t wait any longer, so I hung up and called back the next day. 20 minutes was just too long. I’m going to try the online next time. Their reps are very friendly, cooperative, efficient in taking the claim, supportive, and pleasant. I talked to several of them and never had any problem once I got someone on the phone. Once I’ve put in the claim, the technician showed up within one to three business days. I requested them to give me a call 30 minutes ahead of time and they did. They were professional and got the job done in an efficient manner.

My first claim was for a refrigerator. The service technician came in, assessed that we needed a part replaced, ordered the part, came back, and replaced it. For the second claim, we had a plumbing problem at our home. We had two faucets that needed to be repaired. AHS sent STL Plumbing and STL Plumbing sent Lonnie the plumber. He had told me he had 25 years of experience, came in, assessed the situation, took out, and ordered the two faucets. One for the bathroom and one for the kitchen. He did an excellent job.

Then, I thought another faucet was leaking and I called AHS. Then I figured out that it wasn’t leaking so I called American Home Shield and said that I’m gonna cancel the order. The next thing I knew, on that same morning, Lonnie shows up at the door and rushed us in. He goes into the bathroom where I had canceled the order and replaced a flow valve for the tub because the other one had it so that the flow was very strong and the water was pumping up, which made me think there might have been a leak. Subsequently, on the way out, he had me sign something but I didn’t understand what that was about. After he left, I realized, that he came for the order that I canceled, not for the other one.

There was some confusion about why he came when I had canceled the order. Didn’t American Home Shield relay the information to that company? I called American Home Shield to report the problem because it just seemed like he was coming back to collect another $100 for service that I did not need. I also sent an email to STL Plumbing about the situation, but I haven’t heard anything from STL Plumbing. To me, the order that I canceled shouldn’t have gone out to STL and so they shouldn’t have shown up at all. I received a notice to pay $100 for the service call, which was part of my plan to American Home Shield. I’m going to do that and I hope that’s the end of the whole situation. Overall, I’ve been pleased with the service.

Our air conditioner wasn't turning on and there's something wrong with the electrical too. First, American Home Shield sent the air conditioner people out but they couldn't figure it out. So, they referred us to electricians. Then the electrician was able to figure it out. He was not a friendly version though and I wouldn't recommend him to a friend but he got the job done. He didn't want to make eye contact with me which was weird. He didn't seem like he wanted to speak to me. It was awkward. It seem to be because I'm a woman and he was of Arab descent. He didn't even knock on the door. He just waited and let my dog bark. Since the repair, we ran the air conditioner a couple of times when we had a little heat wave and it struggled to get the temperature lower than 75 but it eventually made it in about four hours.

Also, one time, we called for our hot water heater because it sounded like there was somebody in there throwing baseballs. We had two people come out, one of which said that it needed to be replaced but then the AHS people said no and that it still makes hot water, so we were fine. Great. We're gonna wait until it explodes and cause a major water damage or leaves us without hot water for a week then AHS is gonna fix it. They're hoping that they'll get beyond this year and I'll have to pay another premium, then they can maybe do it.

The pool would not prime and the pool company that American Home Shield sent out was really good. Even though they haven’t fixed the problem yet, they are responsive and extremely polite. They called and came right away, which does not always happen. This particular service call was one of my better calls for sure. The technician really spends time when he comes out here and I feel like he will figure the issue out. It’s probably more than just one thing that’s wrong with it so he’s trying to move to those steps. And they have the ability to place the recall.

The technician replaced the part right away and when it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do, they came out that same day and worked on it. The technician wouldn’t replace a part unless it was necessary so he’ll have to come back out and reevaluate the new pump. The system has multiple parts and he only did the pump. Even though the pump is still not working, I’m pretty confident based on how the pool company has been responding that they’ll be very prompt coming out Monday as well. Every contractor that American Home Shield uses is different so sometimes our experience is really good and then sometimes, it's difficult. Several months ago, there was a Facebook post about American Home Shield and it was positive. It was put out on their website and people made terrible comments about the service. But we've never had any problems with American Home Shield. They have always been able to come out and get things taken care of. I definitely like American Home Shield and I'm very thankful that we've had it.

We had a heating issue in January and we had to get our heating unit replaced. We had come home from an out-of-town and we smelled something electrical smoky and burning. We realized it was our heater that was making a noise so we turned it off. That was about 9 o’clock at night. I went over to the computer, submitted the claim. The next day, the company called and said they were gonna be out. This was in the coldest part of the winter down here in Houston so the guy came out right away. So submitting the claim was great.

The contractor was great too. They tried to replace a part on the unit but it was very old and probably original to the house from 1989 so they couldn’t get the part. Finally, they said that they would ask American Home Shield if they could just replace it. So they were very nice and friendly. They kept us up-to-date on what was going on although it took a while because they were trying do one thing and it didn’t work. But we finally got it going. In fact, our electric bill dropped tremendously, like $40 for one month and we were thrilled that the unit seemed to be working fine right now.

Also, in the process of getting our heating unit replaced, the man somehow did something to the compressor of the AC unit outside and he said that it was low on Freon. He said that he could put some in but if it leaks out, we were gonna have to replace the unit. They actually put the call in to American Home Shield for us to get a new air conditioning unit and we ended up getting a new heating unit and a new air conditioning unit. We'd recommended American Home Shield and our son now has them too. We told him that it was a good idea to do that.

I submitted my request online and it took me about a minute, and they called me back the same day and asked me what was going on. I gave them the description, and they scheduled an appointment for later that week for somebody to come out. The guy came out on the day and time that they said he would be here. He diagnosed the problem and we had to wait about a week for parts to come in, and then they installed it. The guy who did the work was very nice and seem to know what he was talking about. I have a brother who does air-conditioning for a living as well, so I grilled the guy through some of the questions that my brother told me to ask and the guy answered every question and was very cordial with me.

We have several people living in the house so it heats up quickly. So, we asked them to definitely keep the house cooler for us. And since the repair, the house is cooler so we’re quite happy. The only thing is that I had to pay an additional $300 out of pocket for the Freon type that the guy had to put in because Home Shield only covers a small amount. They should cover everything, which was what I thought I am paying for. Other than that, I would highly recommend American Home Shield, especially when you move into a new house and you don’t know the history of it.

We had a faucet in the shower that would continue to run water if you put it in the off position. We had to go outside and shut the water coming from the street to the house till the techs could repair it. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was easy to do and they were prompt so I had no problems. I called American Home Shield and the rep was courteous. She got right on and said she'll have somebody out first thing in the morning because it was about 11 o'clock at night when I called. And sure enough, I got a call at 7:02.

I was at work and my wife was home when Hardy Plumbing came over. She was real pleased with the gentleman they sent out. She said he got right in there and got the problem squared away and double-checked the other bathroom to make sure we weren't having problems in that one. She said everything was fine. He probably had everything done within half an hour. After the repair, the faucet seems to be working and the pressure's even better as far as sending the water out. All in all, American Home Shield is the best investment I've been making monthly.

I did a claim online with American Home Shield for someone to come fix my hot water tank, but I didn’t like the guy they sent out. He tried to charge me to the extreme and I knew it didn't cost that much for new piping. I also don't like anybody coming in here and they feel that they can take advantage of me because I’m a woman. He was trying to charge me a lot. He said that they only pay for the replacement and the removing, and he was trying to charge $1,000 for some pipes. He said that he gotta pull a permit and then, I would still have to pay the $1,000 out of my pocket, and I didn't like that. American Home Shield told me I can go out on my own, so I did it. I paid for it to get it done and I'm waiting for the guy to give me my receipt so I can send it in to them.

One time in the past, I called a company out for my furnace and I kept telling them that something was wrong with the wires coming loose. I told them I was having difficulty with the motor-like thing that spins and that it keeps getting stuck, and sometimes I had to come down. I kept saying that something didn’t seem right and they didn't do anything but put the wires and sat there for a minute and left. The tech said it was just wires that came loose. He plugged them back up, sat there for a minute, and then left. So, that was a waste of $75 because that didn't get fixed.

American Home Shield is wonderful, and the claim and everything else is fine now. But I don't like when I call and certain people come out and they try to charge me. Their customer service was fine. When I called and talked to them, they totally understood. The lady addressed me and said to not do the submission of the claim online and that a call would be better. I recommend American Home Shield to a couple of people. I recommended my sister to them, although we were supposed to get a $25 gift card from Amazon, we never received it. I also told my car insurance person that American Home Shield is really good.

They sent me a text and an email said that the contractor was gonna call me and they gave me the numbers I could call in case the contractor didn't call me back. Then within 24 hours after my request, a lady from American Home Shield called me.

I had the appointment the same day. The contractor assessed the situation and he realized that it was not really the garbage disposal that was defective. It was more an electrical problem so he referred me to another company, contacted American Home Shield and told them that the service needs to move from a plumber service to an electrical service. It was really smooth. I just called one time and the guy came 24 hours after. He was really great and I was happy because he was fast. Overall, American Home Shield was really professional and I didn’t have to wait. And with the submission online, I could pay directly through the system and everything would be paid in advance.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a problem with the pool. However, the problem was when I purchased the home warranty, I asked questions but I didn’t get the breakdown until after I had the contract. I was told that everything was covered from the filter to the ground and anything underground or in the pool wasn’t covered. When I moved in, the filter, the pump wasn’t working in the pool and there was a cleaning system.

Right away, I had a $500 bill from the warranty company on that because it wasn’t covered. Once I got in and called American Home Shield, they denied the claim and I was able to look at the full breakdown of the contact and they had that in there. I was really unhappy with the fact that when I was told prior to purchasing the warranty, that anything in line with the filter to the ground was covered, but I didn’t know it had a cleaning system.

I also had a plumbing problem that I was denied on. It was outside of the house but it was a leak on the main water valve. They came in and told me that they denied it then I went back and had them give me an estimate on what it will cost to fix it. They gave me an estimate. I was gonna pay the plumber to do the job but in the meantime, I called somebody else out and he told me that it wasn’t bad and that he wasn’t gonna replace it. He charged me half the money and fixed it. He told me that the warranty company probably should have covered it but they didn’t. They were brutal and were denying me on a dishwasher telling me it was pre-existing, although it wasn’t. It was crazy and there was nothing we can do about it.

The pool guy was cool and he was great. I like him, but I was denied because there’s something in the print and we’ve had two people come to the house for a dishwasher. The one guy came back and then the second time he came back, he told us that they were not gonna be able to fix it and they were probably gonna replace it for us. I called back because I heard nothing a week later and American Home Shield said that I was denied. The technician told them that it was damaged due to abuse, when he told us in the home that it was probably gonna get replaced because he didn’t seem like he can repair it.

There was no damage. They sent another guy out who said that they can fix anything and that anything can be fixed. He also said that he’ll get back to us in a couple of days. I called back again a week later and he told American Home Shield that it was a pre-existing problem. These guys are in the pocket of the home warranty people and their business relies solely on home warranty companies.

I’m not really happy with their customer service and sometimes they’re rude. It hasn’t been a good experience and we’re not gonna renew it at the end of the year. I would tell my friends to take their money and put it aside than spend it on a home warranty. When they have a problem, call out a technician that’s not gonna charge them twice as much as their people are charging them from the home warranty company.

There was a leak in one of the upper areas and I told my renter, “I'll take care of it, and you can do whatever you need to do.” She made the claim to American Home Shield. They had to go in, take a part of the sheetrock out, and repair it. It was taken care of. Also, I've had some work done on the pool pump that was reasonably well-done. They’ve done what they needed to do and then informed the warranty company what needed to be done. Most of the time, it has been fairly painless as far as getting things done.

But more than a year ago, I had a significant experience in a negative way when I had a water heater replaced. The water heater went out and I asked for them to come in and look at it. They did and they said it needed to be replaced but that they could not pay for the replacement because there were additional code upgrades that had to be done which was not covered by the warranty. So, I had about a $1,000 bill that I had to take care of. I tried to dispute that and I called but I got the same answer that they couldn't take care of it. The codes have changed and they had to do other things to it so it wasn't a replacement item, it was a new item. I was very displeased with the warranty company.

Also, I notice that there are raises in the premiums on a somewhat consistent basis which is true with any company that has to do with the rising cost of materials. That’s one of the things that I don’t have any control over, so I just keep doing it. I still have my warranty but I certainly could see me changing and it still may be something that I'll do in the future.

I made a claim with American Home Shield for two things. AHS charged me for the $75 fee and then AAA Appliance also charged me. So, I was overcharged twice and I filed a claim for the $75. And on the the other one, the washing machine, which was out of order. The guy who came to fix it that AHS ordered told me that it will have to be replaced. Two weeks passed and nobody called to replace it and we could not wash. I called their customer service department and the guy who extended my contract told me to file a claim.

I filed a claim to be reimbursed for $400 and some even though I paid more than $650. Up to now, AHS said that the claim was no good because it was addressed. I sent a copy of the delivery and it was sent to my address because I paid for my own personal credit card. But the washing machine was delivered to 717 Widgeon and I included the copy of the delivery receipt. I contacted AHS three times. And the last one that I contacted was the department handling the reimbursement. I sent everything that has support for my claim that I really paid for the appliance and was delivered to the place where I have my insurance but I have never received anything from the person as well.

I had a very, very bad experience with AHS. I was thinking of moving somewhere else where I can get good service because I pay my fee diligently and then when it comes to something that has to be done, I get so much trouble. I am very, very dissatisfied because of the bad service that I got and I will not recommend AHS to anybody that I know.

My problem started on February 20 when my heat went out. My furnace was emitting a burning smell that was coming through my vent. And the smell was toxic because I couldn't leave the windows closed when that smell was emitted through the house. The temperature was already low. It was close to freezing and so I have to open my windows.

I called American Home Shield and posted a service call. The contractors came out and fixed the furnace. However, the heat went out again. In the past, American Home Shield had told me that in case I have a problem with an existing service request, I just have to call the technician back. So, I placed a second call. The technician came back immediately and fixed the heater again. They were good with their response time. The heater went off again the third and fourth time and during the fourth time that I called the technician, I got no response from them at all. And so, I called American Home Shield and explained to them what happened. I asked them if I could request a different company to come out because True Tech Heating, the contract company, had already been out three times and each time, the heater continued to go off.

American Home Shield agreed to send a different company, Sifill and Son, this time. Their first visit was on March 12. They diagnosed the furnace and they said that a high-volume switch needed to be replaced. Several hours later, the furnace stopped working again so I called Sifill and Son back. The technician came back and this time, he couldn't find anything wrong but he said that the computer panel had some dark spots on it. So, he was going to replace that. He had to order the computer panel so I waited for him to return. When he did, he replaced the computer panel. After a few hours, the fire smell started emitting through the house again. The furnace started making some noise and then it shut down. And so I placed another call to the technician. He told me that he would have to have me rescheduled so I waited but didn't hear from him.

I called American Home Shield back and told them that the technician was supposed to return but he didn't. At that point, American Home Shield told me that I should not have called the technician. Instead, I should have called them because they needed a record of everything that had transpired. I told them that the only reason I did that was that that was what I was told to do in the past. So from that point on, I went directly to American Home Shield.

Sifill and Son had already came out three times and each time, the furnace went out again. On the fourth time, the technician replaced a limit switch which he had to order again. After which, the system went down again and the smell of fire still emitted through my house. This is a gas furnace and I'm scared because it is winter time and I don't have any heat. I'm forced to use space heaters. Sifill and Son came out for the fifth and sixth time. On the sixth time, they sent out their senior technician. He came in and within 15 minutes, he was gone. He left my house before I could even talk to him. I had to run outside to talk to him and find out what happened. He told me that he had to replace a capacitor. It did fix the issue for two hours.

I called American Home Shield back and explained to the rep what happened. It was the ninth service call I've already had from two different companies. The rep asked me if I wanted them to send the technician out again. I told the rep that my issue needed to be escalated to a supervisor as I was already tired. She escalated to a supervisor named Stephanie and that I should receive a call from her but I never did. Prior to me expecting a call from Stephanie, I had asked for this entire claim to be escalated to a supervisor and I never got a call from that supervisor either.

I told the American Home Shield rep that I'm going to write their President a letter because this had to stop. I also told her that it is spring now and I've been waiting since February the 20th. If I let this go, I'm going to have to revisit this in the fall and I'm going to have to start all over again with the same issue. I don’t have any heat and I'm scared with this smell of fire being emitted through my house. A customer should never be at the mercy of a contract company to say that a part had to be replaced or that there was nothing else they could do especially when I have had so many service calls for the same issue.

Do not contract with American Home Shield. The service was not what they say it was. When I have a minor issue, they were very good but when it came to something more in depth, I got the runaround. This should not be allowed to happen. There should be some checks and balances in American Home Shield where somebody is reviewing what was going on a claim and if there was a repeat issue, they needed to step in and do something.

I had a couple of claims with American Home Shield and all of them had a bad experience. The most recent appliance call to American Home Shield was for an old dryer that failed. The tech was called and they came out, looked at it and then spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get parts for this 30-year old dryer. He came to a conclusion that he couldn’t. And so, American Home Shield replaced it with a new dryer. And when the guy delivered the dryer, he brought the dryer out. In order to put it in its tight fit, he has to pull the washer out then put the dryer in and then put the washer back. The installer said he can’t touch the washing machine so they just left the dryer there. My property manager actually installed the dryer and it was kind of a stupid work.

Also, the most recent call I had was for my property in Michigan. There was a leaking valve so I placed a call to AHS and Best Plumbing came out, looked at it and told me that they can fix the valve. And before they fixed it, they said I had all kinds of house piping that needs to be replaced. They also told me that it was incompatible with our house piping and it’s gonna cost $2,000. I told them to hang on and I had my property manager send her licensed plumber out to take a look at the piping. Her licensed plumber said the piping was fine and need not be replaced. The plumber went ahead and fixed the valve and I just took care of it from my property manager. I paid $100 for the service call for the AHS plumber that came out. And while that AHS plumber was out there, he talked to my tenants and told my tenants that the plumbing is not safe and that it needs to be replaced immediately.

I live in California but my property is in Michigan. I got unhappy tenants over nothing but a non-existent problem. So, my property manager’s plumber talked to the tenants, told them everything was fine and in good shape, and fixed the problem. Then, I had another problem with the property in Iowa where the dryer won’t stop working. The American Home Shield tech came out and allegedly did something to the dryer’s timer and then discovered that it didn’t fix the problem. So, they sent an electrician to look at the wiring. Whatever it was, they fixed it. Then, I got bills for two service calls. I paid for the fees for the tech that looked at the dryer control and then the other for the electric that looked at the breaker.

In total, I have four properties and I pay over $2,000 in coverage. I don’t think it’s worth it and I’m gonna let my coverage lapse on my property in Michigan when it expires in July. I’m just gonna let all four of my policies lapse because it looks to me like it’s just a bait and switch with American Home Shield. If a problem happened one time, I might have called AHS to send a different guy. But it is a pattern with American Home Shield. I don’t trust them and I don’t think I would have gotten an honest second opinion.

On December 29th, I called American Home Shield and they said that they will send someone within two or three days and they will charge me a $75 fee. I said “Fine.” AZ Plumbing showed up at my door and they said that my AC had a blown up fuse so they replaced it. After a day, a fuse has blown again, so they came back and they again replaced the fuse. They told me that if it fails one more time, to call them up and they will do something different. It has blown up again, so they came a third time, did some research and spent 2 hours. They then said that the motor is bad and that they have to order it. It’ll take about a week for the motor to come so I said that I will wait for a week. But the motor did not arrive in a week. It took about nine days and by that time we were ready to leave for India. We already had a vacation plan.

So, on January 15th, we left for India and I told them that as soon as the motor arrives to send me an email to let me know and we can schedule a further appointment for the fixing date. We came back on February 14th and I called them up. They made an appointment but this time they told me a different story. They said that it was not the main motor and that it had something to do with the outside unit. So, they just lied to me for about nine days saying that it’s a problem with the motor. My home was without AC for another one and a half month.

On the February 15th to 19th timeframe, they came with someone called a lead technician and they spent another two hours working on the outside unit. They then told me that it’s all fixed and that my AC should be working fine. The AC again didn’t work fine so they came back again and they said it was a problem with the thermostat. So, they replaced the fans in the thermostat but it didn’t work again. I called AHS again and then they came back again. They spent another two hours and they said that there was a problem with the wiring so they redid the wiring but the AC didn’t work again. So, they came around for about the ninth time, then they said that they need to go the attic to check the wiring but they do not have a safe access to the attic.

When someone has come nine times at my house that means he doesn’t know how to do the work. So, I called American Home Shield and told them to get me a new guy but they said that they can’t give me one. I had to deal with these guys and they didn't know anything. They were just screwing up my AC. So, I went outside and got a guy who has a good rating here, right across my community. He came, fixed the AC and charged me $99. It was working fine as soon it was done. American Home Shield is a scam.

It didn’t take them long to come after my claims were submitted. There were just things that I had to do that I didn’t do that made them have to come back. Other than that, my old oven that was as old as I am was replaced and it's performing excellently. I'm now able to do more.

We had to get a new water heater. The other one that stopped working was leaking and the pilot lights were falling out. We were on vacation then but we had a house sitter and American Home Shield has always been good to respond when we have an issue. We were very happy with them. But we just had a grinder pump in our home and we needed a warranty system that had grinder pump coverage. When I talked to them to add it, they said that no home warranty had grinder pump coverage. But I found out different. Somebody in our neighborhood told us that they went with HSA which had the coverage for a grinder pump. They’ve also always been happy with them so that was why we switched.

American Home Shield has sent out different companies here and their techs have always been nice. We had one for our air conditioner and that worked out. Then for our new air conditioner, we had a maintenance company come out for the fall. They also came out in spring for the AC and the heater. But with the AC, we had to add Freon on it and it was a brand new one. Then on our most recent claim for the icemaker, the contractor took it out to check and ordered a replacement so I didn’t have an icemaker for a few days. Although they brought back the right replacement, it was like the one we had before and still doesn't make ice quickly as it should. But as far as people being nice or trying to help, AHS has all done that. Their rep also has always been very nice when I submit a claim over the phone. I'd recommend AHS to a friend.

Then after a couple of hours, I got hold of the contractor. I really like the contractor. He was very informative and great and if we had a problem, I would give him a call back and he would come in and double check. The heating unit seems to be working now. The only problem with AHS is when you call, you’re on hold for a long time, that’s why we did everything online. The first time I called, I was on hold for 45 minutes.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was straightforward and I usually do it by phone. My recent claim with them was for a repair of the attic roof. Our fans failed so our attic was getting very hot. But I had a hard time getting someone to want to do the work. First, two folks came out. One of the contractors was McGee services and he was absolutely horrible. The guy showed up and said, "They don't pay me enough to do this. I wanna get paid a 100 bucks and I 'm not doing that work." The guy had been out to our house twice and he refused the job twice as well. One of them was the doorbell and he said that he’s not crawling out to our house to look for the transformers. They had to send another guy out who did it in five minutes. That's not the type of person that AHS needs representing their warranty program. So AHS needs to qualify some of the contractors better.

AHS had to find a third contractor to do the work as the claim was covered. The final contractor who did the work was outstanding! It was a husband and wife electrician team that came out to look and they said, "We're happy to do it." And they did the entire job flawlessly. It looked great. So, they got a dude followed by an outstanding person. The repair kept out attic cooler and it has an important effect on our cooling bills in our house. Overall, AHS had been pretty good at doing what they said they would do. But there had been certain situations where it was very hard to get the repair done in a correct way.

One example is when our GE Profile stainless steel dishwasher failed. It had been repaired four times and the repair company finally came out and said that the dishwasher was not repairable. And when it came a time to get it replaced, we ran into a situation where the person that was on the line for American Home Shield said that we had to choose from black or white. I told him the dishwasher comes in stainless steel. But the rep said that my contract doesn't specify that I have a choice of color. The rep could not seem to get it across to the person that there wasn't a colored choice. That was the most frustrating thing that happened. Then, when AHS couldn't find it, they wanted to give a dishwasher that they figured was a lesser model and I had to spend $800 more to buy the same dishwasher that we had.

We were doing an apples for apples replacement but AHS wants to try and put in a less costly version of what I already paid good money to buy my appliances. When they failed I want them replaced with the same appliance as long as it’s available on the market. And AHS played a little low-cost-denominator model and it made me not want to use them going forward. We're no longer with AHS. They cancelled our contract and that was the end of our contract. They didn't renew it. So, I'm now currently looking for another warranty company to replace them. I'm a lot choosier now as to who I'll go with as a result. And if you go out and look at the Better Business Bureau complaints about American Home Shield, that's one of the number one complaints filed against them.

But my toilet being cracked was an emergency and he should have wanted to fix that too. When he came, he said that AHS doesn’t warrant cracked toilets so, he sent off for a different kind and it was way smaller than the one that we had. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. Every time I called them, somebody was very prompt in getting back with me.

Afterward, the contractor came and saw the appliance and he recommended certain repairs. So I called American Home Shield asking if they have any other options, like doing cash out and then I go and buy a new one, and how much they were going to pay me if I cash out. And we've decided to repair it and I wanted to get back to them and say, "Hey, we're repairing," but that process is not smooth because I have to go to some kind of a purchasing department, which is different and not the regular customer service department. It goes through three different people.

While they were able to handle the situation well, it was time-consuming to get to the person and waiting online. And then they need to go and talk with the contractor. That took another two days. It’s been awhile since this has been going on. They do their job but you have to have patience. Don’t have too high expectations.

They’ll give you the contractor's phone number and the address so you can contact them as well. They’re pretty local in the area where you’re at to make things easy and get things done. We had an issue with some electrical flickering lights and it was making noises. I turned the microwave on and it looks like it was losing power. I called AHS and their reps helped me. We had a leak and the first person I talked to at American Home Shield arranged for somebody to come out within two days to fix it. But from there, the experience went down. The plumber cut a hole in our ceiling and fixed the leak. He said that he would call American Home Shield and they’d send somebody to fix the hole. He then left. A week later, I called American Home Shield to see what was going on. They had no record of the plumber calling to report and of the hole needing to be fixed. If they knew that the plumber wasn’t going to fix it, they would have arranged to have it all fixed at the same time. I spoke to two people five days apart. Neither of them submitted the work order to have it fixed. I finally called back and spoke to a fourth person after the initial call to have the plumber out. She was able to arrange to have somebody come fix it and he called me.

I had two things in the one work order. With the plumbing issue, it had to do with a valve. There was a communication problem between the plumber and me. He said I needed to call American Home Shield and that he wouldn’t be able to do that. But it was on the initial work order. I was confused as to why he couldn’t do that because we couldn’t have a complete conversation. I reported back to American Home Shield that that part was not addressed but I haven’t heard anything from American Home Shield or a plumber to come and fix that. As for the second issue, the drywall fix will be happening on Monday.

Overall, it has been a little bit clunky. When I complained about the plumber who came out, his lack of English and that he only fixed one of our two problems, they said, “Sorry. We’re still gonna have to send out the same person.” I was also disappointed by that. But they said that they would request a senior person. Also, since I’ve called four times and spoken to four different customer service people, there is a definite range of knowledge. It didn’t seem like all four of them knew the steps that needed to be taken to get the problem solved although the first one clearly did. She was efficient and I could understand her really well. The only problem was that I explained that the leak was in the ceiling so it was known that there would need to be a cut. And so at that time, I think that they should have said, “Our plumbers don’t fix drywall so we’ll also arrange to have somebody come fix the hole after it’s cut open."

American Home Shield was good but I only had them for two months before I discontinued it. The problem was the contractor. I had an issue with the toilet and I submitted the claim over the phone. It took a couple of days before a technician came out and when he did, he acted like I was bothering him. The problem wasn’t fixed either, and the toilet was still running. He said he was fixing it and then he gave me some information about something that I had to do with the main water line. So when my daughter came home, I told her about it. She called American Home Shield again and requested not to have the same technician come out, but he was the same technician who came out.

My daughter told the technician how I felt about his attitude and that maybe he was just having a bad day. She told him what was going on and she tried to explain to him what I told her. He said that it was mixed up somewhere in relaying from what he said to what I told her. He explained it to us again and when he came in the second time, he had a better attitude. Maybe it was because my daughter had called him on it.

He wasn't able to fix the problem. He said the water pressure was too high and that he can't do anything about it. But none of the other pipes were ever messed up. The toilet wasn’t leaking before then and we’ve been in the same house for all these years. I think the piece he used for toilet requires a lower water pressure. We had the box for that part too and it did say on the box what the water pressure should be. Maybe they don’t make the part for high water pressure anymore. The toilet is not leaking though. It just runs every few minutes.

He said that I have to call Water and Power and he made us think that Water and Power could adjust the water pressure, but Water and Power said said they don’t do anything like that. The water pressure is not adjusted per household and they have a certain water pressure for everybody in the neighborhood. They told me I needed to get the valve to lower the water pressure. We looked it up but it goes on to the main water line which is outside. It was a mess. This plumbing company has bad reviews on Yelp too and I don’t understand how American Home Shield is keeping this company. The contractor had also told us that American Home Shield won’t cover anything that has to do with plumbing because we don’t have that thing for the water pressure so we canceled the warranty.

I have a receipt from Value Rooter (the company that AHS sent out) that says that they fixed our sump pump. Since March I’ve been calling AHS and we’ve been told by four different people that it should have been covered per our contract. We sent in the receipt and each time we were told we sent it to the wrong place and given another email address. We then were told that the previous customer service representatives told us the wrong thing, etc. I was even then rudely told, “Well I see you’re getting angry. You’ve been calling every other day. You need to calm down ma’am.” Never have I been rude to customer service, and yes I’ve been calling because repeatedly I’ve been told I would be contacted back within a certain time period and yet nothing ever happens.

I’m a school teacher, my husband is a paramedic and spending $525 on something is a lot of money (hence the reason we have a warranty). We paid for the problem and then got a $75 bill, and then when we called we were told by our specific agent Charles that it should’ve been covered. We weren’t even after getting reimbursed, we were just trying to clear everything up. I’ve never been so disappointed in such awful customer service. It’s not customer service when the customer is having to call repeatedly and being hung up on and being spoken to like that. Then they blamed it on Value Rooter and now all of a sudden when I said I would contact the Better Business Bureau and a small courts lawyer, it’s coming back that the problem somehow is not what I have on the receipt, but something completely different. I’m done with being bullied.

I contacted AHS when the kitchen faucet broke. I repairman stated that it could not be fixed and that they would attempt to get a new part. He also stated that AHS would never replace the entire faucet. Subsequently I found out that AHS was rejecting my claim because the damage was caused by excessive force and not by normal wear and tear. (I had just bought the property 5 months earlier). I contacted the plumbing company and told them that AHS was saying that the plumber had made that report. They denied having said that. According to the plumber they stated that the part needed replacement, and nothing else. So who is the liar??? It is obvious to me that AHS falsified the information so as not to pay for a new faucet. What a dishonest conduct. I will have nothing to do with them again. Use another more honest company.

I've been a customer of AHS for about 15 years. Usually they have been real good and I have been satisfied. Then I called about my Viking stove, which is an expensive commercial stove. Two of the ignitors on the stove quit working altogether, and the other two continue to try to ignite after the stove is lit. Also, one of the ignitors in the oven quit working. My complaint is this; I called in my problem 3 1/2 MONTHS ago. A contractor came by, told me I needed ignitors. He came back a week later with the wrong parts.

Since then I've been told that they cannot find the parts. They even told me that they don't make that part anymore. I thought I was going to get a new stove. My contract says they will pay $3,000 for repair or replacement. Then, two weeks ago I get an email that the parts are ordered. Two weeks ago. Yesterday I emailed Viking, gave them my model and serial numbers and asked if they had ignitors in stock. They said yes. I asked if these were parts that are hard to come by, they answered no, ignitors go out and they can always be gotten within a few days. So why the heck have I been waiting 3 1/2 months, only using 2 of 4 burners on my stove? Because they are expensive. Not near $3,000 expensive. But AHS will only pay for aftermarket parts, even if a 15 year customer has to go without half a stove for 3 1/2 months. When it gets fixed, They're fired.

I did the request online with American Home Shield for the refrigerator. And the contractor Air Squad Heating and Air Conditioning contacted us. We set up the appointment and they came out and fixed the refrigerator. The technician was nice. He was on time, friendly, and was in and out pretty quick. I was a little concerned but the refrigerator has been working great since the repair. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is a great program and very valuable to have. I tried a different one before, but that was just not the program. I've had AHS for over a year and they are the best by far. The customer service is great, they're people of their word and they respond immediately, which is excellent. They send out some great people, too. Recently, my dryer was screaming continuously. It sounded like something was stuck between the barrel and the thing, and it was constantly scratching. I submitted the claim online and their website is great. But I may have missed the technician's call and it's possible someone had called so, I'm gonna contact them again. Normally, the technicians go out right away. They’re very friendly and they keep me up to date as to what’s going on and what parts they’re using, and they even give me information on what I need to do for future use. I’m very happy with the program and I will let several people know.

We had to have our air conditioner and heater unit replaced. We filed a claim with American Home Shield online and they sent out technicians in just a few days. When they came, everything was clean, tidy and efficient. But, we still had to pay around $2,600 out of pocket because there needed to be a crane, an inspection and a permit as the replacement should be done on the roof of our home. I wasn't aware that these were not covered by the home warranty until I spoke with American Home Shield. Still, I would recommend them.

I had a refrigerator that was acting up and neither us nor my electrician friends could figure it out. Moreover, I had a few other things that were not working properly. I talked to AHS's representative and I was scheduled very quickly. The contractor was very professional and had a high level of expertise. The first time he came to figure out what was wrong with the refrigerator, some water was coming underneath of the refrigerator. He ordered a part, which took three weeks to arrive. I called AHS because he was taking really long. It took longer than expected but after the piece came, AHS called me right away and then I had to wait a few more days for them to come. And then he told me, "Well, it's fixed. You would not see no more water."

A few days after the gentleman first came, there was a lot of water underneath again and I called AHS to tell them what was going on. When the guy came back and took a look at the refrigerator, he told me I needed to call somebody else because he couldn't it figure out. I said asked how can I call somebody else when he said that he fixed this problem. He had to take all of the refrigerator apart and finally fixed it. I guess he was not in the mood to do the job but the refrigerator is working fine now.

I called AHS twice for two different things. The claim on the bedroom sink, the technician from Allstate Plumbing was very professional. She was very kind and very on time. The one on the bathroom upstairs and the one with the dishwasher, it was a bad experience. A different contractor came to the house for the dishwasher. I explained to them that the dishwasher in the kitchen wasn’t working properly so they opened the door and they got some parts. They said they were coming back but they never did. When I called American Home Shield, they said that they cannot do anything until they got the reports from the tech.

I called the contractor and they said they cannot fix it but why did they keep the parts out? Why did they leave the dishwasher half of what it was in there? Then I had a leak upstairs in the second bathroom and they said they cannot fix it because it was another warranty. It would cost $200 to fix it outside of American Home Shield. The way they were talking was very disrespectful. The problem is not solved but it’s okay. I’m gonna fix the dishwasher. But the thing is, I had a previous, same problem and I asked the AHS representative to give me Allstate again but they said they couldn’t. They said that it's whoever that picks up their phone calls.

I’ve been with AHS for over two years and I’m pretty much satisfied because this is the second time I used them. My garbage disposal unit was messed up and they sent somebody out and did that. In fact, I mentioned AHS to my family members and friends.

I paid my fee for the year and didn’t need to use my home warranty until the week. I called in the claim with American Home Shield and it took them a reasonable amount of time to get someone out. I sent in $75 and a plumber came out, looked at the dishwasher and solved the problem which was it was not installed correctly. Therefore, the mechanisms could not work. The plumber had to come back and he worked for a very long time repositioning the dishwasher and then the mechanisms could work and it's been fine ever since. He was very polite and knowledgeable, and I was very pleased with what he did.

I would use the company that was sent out here again and again and recommend them very much, but the plan was not very useful for me. I paid between $500 and $600 for the service and sent in $75 when the service was done. So, for ordinary things at home, that’s not a very good burden and if I had something very expensive that needed to be replaced, then yes, it would be. But over three years, I would have saved between $1,500 to $2,000.

There were three different service providers that were called by American Home Shield for my plumbing claim, and it was not until the third that it was actually serviced properly. It was misdiagnosed by the first plumber that was there. He said it had nothing to do with plumbing, but it was the main plumbing line. Then he told me that I was gonna have to repair $36,000 worth of things in my home which was not the case. I was in panic mode because it was my first day moving into my property and I couldn’t get a resolution or an understanding of how quickly it was gonna be serviced. The next contractor was a Hevac person and then another plumber came, and they were both excellent. But it was a lengthy repair. It took literally four days to finally get it resolved. They came out on a weekend for two days after I first called and then it was not serviced because of how long it was gonna take.

I called American Home Shield first for plumbing and when I got the appointment with the plumbing company to come out, they couldn't come for five days. And since it was a running toilet, I decided I would YouTube it and try to fix it myself and I did. Five days was just too long for a running toilet. Then, two weeks after that I experienced a clogged toilet. So again, I contacted them and this time, notified the company. The same company got sent out again but this time, they were there the next day. James was very professional. He was on time, gave me heads up via phone and text when he was going to come early and finished on time, cleaned up after everything.

He gave me information about my toilet and told me that due to the size and shape, and because it's very old, that it's going to continue to clog. And since I've lived in the house for three years and had done it four times, I took his information and contacted his company through a job because it's not under warranty if it's not broke. I hired James to come back and replace the toilets through my own billing. Since he was speaking knowledgeably, he has done his job right and he cleared my toilet quickly, I took his advice. And since I now own the house, I hired the company to come in and replace the toilet.

However, When I use American Home Shield's website, sometimes I get a little frustrated with the lack of choices on it. Plumbing has five choices. And it's like, "Well, you know, what about that kitchen sink or what about the bathroom sink?" You only have a few choices and so, "Fine, toilet." You just sort of pick it. So, when I was trying to select running toilet, I didn't have that option. I had flooding but I didn't have running toilet. But AHS is well worth my $55 monthly payment to not have to worry about an appliance breaking. I just have my $75 ready and get my appliances fixed.

American Home Shield sent out a company for our heating system and I liked the guy who came out. But he put in a different thermostat because he said they were out of the more expensive one. It was strange but it was fine because we didn’t use all the extra stuff. Plus we would have had to wait longer. I was happy but I could hear something. It was clicking and I called the company back. The guy came out and said that the reason the system was making a noise and was not clicking on and off was that the dryer was out on the compressor outside. He also said that our breaker went out but he had fixed it which I appreciated.

But then I got a call a week later saying that they would come out but I would have to buy the Freon from them. I wondered why they would be telling me that and they said that American Home Shield would only pay for $11 a pound and they charge $100, which seemed expensive. I told them that I would check into it and call them back. I called two other companies and one charged $39 while the other one was $42 per pound of Freon. It sounded like the company was making their money off of the Freon off me. I understand charging $10 more than average but not $60 more per pound.

I called and told American Home Shield. But they said it was the company’s choice and that the company can set any price they want. That concerned me. The company also said that they can’t use my old Freon and I may need 10 pounds. That would be $900 if they fill it up and that was bothering me. So I called the contractor who replaced my mother-in-law’s and I asked him to come out. Before he came out, it turned warm in Alabama so I turned on the air conditioner but we had no air. I called American Home Shield and they said that the company who was out didn't report the issue and I would have to use the same company.

When the contractor came out, he told us that the dryer was out and that he would sell us the Freon at his cost. He also said that I had a bad coil and he showed me a picture of it on the inside. But I was sure that the company had previously checked on that. I asked if it could have been messed up when I was running my air and since the dryer was messed up, it could have messed up the coil as well. The guy said that it could have. So I called American Home Shield but the rep said that they can’t do anything about the coil because the company didn’t report it. I called the company back and asked them to come and look at the coil. But they told me that they won’t come out unless I agree to buy Freon from them.

I called AHS again to tell them that the company wouldn’t come back out unless I agreed to sign the Freon. AHS said they would send a second company out. That was great. But then I got a call back telling me that they won’t do it since it was not reported by the first company. I couldn’t understand why AHS wouldn’t send out a second company because they could have verified that the coil was indeed out. Something was not right and I felt like I was being ripped off.

That company was professional when they came out but I didn’t like that I had to call saying I had to buy the Freon from them. And they wouldn’t come back out and say anything about my coils because I wouldn’t really buy the Freon. It says that in the contract and I get that. But I should be able to get a second company to come out if I don’t feel right about the first company. The AHS rep also kept saying that the company will fix the dryer and if there will be a problem within 60 days, then they’ll have to fix it. But they will not fix it unless I buy the Freon from them the second time and it will be $2000. It was not right and it was stressing me out.

I asked for the buy-out and I also kept asking for managers and they didn’t wanna give me one. But I finally got one. They said that was how they dealt with that and that another department decides about the buy-out. Meanwhile, the weather turned cold again and we needed heat. So I went ahead and got it all replaced. If I had paid for the inside coil, I would still have to pay about $1000. In the end, I paid $1100 but I felt like I could trust the contractor more than this other company that was charging more than double the two other companies. On the other hand, when a company came out for plumbing, I was happy. I paid the $75 and the guy was free in 15 minutes. But I’m not gonna end up keeping American Home Shield. I’ve been paying $60 a month and I also paid the $75 but I felt like I couldn’t win.
