My AC thermostat wasn't working and I called American Home Shield to file a claim for it. Their reps were great and I got a response quicker than what I used to. Immediately I got an email from the company that was going to be calling me. Then within a few minutes or a couple hours, the company actually called. I was used to about four days of response time but now somebody called pretty much almost immediately which was shocking. The contractor was courteous and knowledgeable. He was a person I wouldn't mind having to come back. He seemed like he was trustworthy too.
Hello, Mr. Griffith. Thank you for taking the time to advise us of your service experience.

I had an AC claim with American Home Shield and it was easy and didn't take long. Integrity Air came out to service it and it was very smooth and nice. They showed up on time, were very polite, and got the situation resolved quickly.
Great Kimberly! We appreciate your sharing your experience. Thanks for choosing AHS. We look forward to assisting your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

My microwave stopped working as well as my icemaker and refrigerator. I submitted my claims to American Home Shield online because it was just simpler, easier and faster than calling. On the same day that I submitted the claim, I got a call from the contractor setting up an appointment date. The contractor was professional. On the refrigerator, the contractor came out and saw what was wrong with it. He knew what it was so they had to order the part which took another week for them to fix. It was a little time-consuming on waiting for it to get fixed but the service was good.
And then for my microwave, he said that he could fix it. He ordered the part which took almost close to two weeks. However, when he finally got the part and put it in, the microwave still wasn’t working so he said that I would be receiving a check from American Home Shield to replace the unit. But I still haven't heard from AHS yet and it has been over a month now. I called them yesterday and it said that I was getting transferred to an operator but then the phone just hung up.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and I spoke with a representative in setting up the service appointment. Our interactions with the reps were all good. The contractor that came out was HRS Heating and Cooling. The technician did his business and got it done, and he was in there not more than 20 minutes. He knew what he was looking for and he got the problem fixed, and everything is fine now. We've had American Home Shield for almost six years now and we’re getting ready to sell the place. But we’ve actually recommended them and we'll be extending the warranty to the buyer of the house.

The toilet broke so I called American Home Shield and I was impressed because they came out the next and fixed it. The man was prompt and polite. Somebody got confused because I gave AHS and the contractor a landline. My cell phone is usually in my purse in the bedroom and I’m not in there. And sure enough, they called the cell phone and I didn’t know it. But it’s good that you can call and they’ll get it done since I’m not experienced on fixing things. My son talked me into having it because he says they’re licensed and not like having just anybody in your home.
Hi, Freida. We are glad that we were able to get someone out and correct your issue for you.

My experience with American Home Shield went well after I turned my air on today. Apparently, there's a power out switch outside that fried out. These were little boxes that had a lock on it that the people who work on it swapped it out, so it'd start working again. Filing a claim used to be difficult because they take forever to answer the phone. But when I called about the AC, they answered quickly. And within a few hours, I got a message saying that the appointment was scheduled. I called them over the weekend and they came that Monday. We don't get serviced on a weekend if something happened and that has always been my concern. Nevertheless, the contractor was good. He was knowledgeable, answered my questions, and told me the things to look for to make sure my AC keeps up and running right. So far, it's working just fine. I've been using AHS for eight years now. I don't use them much but when I do, it helps. I'd recommend them.
Great Quentin! We are happy to know that we have been able to provide satisfactory service. It means the world that you would share your warranty experience. Thanks for choosing AHS. Have a great weekend!

I have a pool and when you turn it on, it leaked everywhere. And when my young children would go to turn it on, it would shock them. I have eight kids, so it wasn't a good thing. There was also no suction coming from where the pool sweeper is. I went online and submitted the claim at AHS and it was fast. But I didn't like who they tried to send out here. I had that contractor out before and he didn't fix the problem. He came for the same thing to be done two or three times. So far, we've paid three or four times for the contractor to come out, and they're telling me those are unrelated issues. And I had to pay $75 to have someone come out again. It took eight months and after the last guy came, it finally got fixed.
The pool seems much better than it had been, but the pump is still making a really loud noise which is what I called them for. The tech said that a stem might be busted, so if I hear the noise, I need to call them to come back. Overall I've had a couple of issues, but American Home Shield has done their best to try and make it right. I recommend them all the time.
Hello, Fawnda. I apologize that you have had an issue that is taking several trips to resolve. Please contact us if you are having a re-occurring issue.

I recently made a claim with American Home Shield about my tenant in New Hope, Pennsylvania and called to get a follow-up on what was going on with the request for service. I spoke to their rep directly and I was very comfortable with the information that she shared with me because the tenants gave me some different information. The other part of the call with her was to clarify the fact that the service fee of $75 was not supposed to have been charged to my credit card. That is totally out of order. The tenants were never given the authority to charge my credit card and I told them that they had to pay the service fee. The young lady who spoke with me said she was going to make sure that it would be resolved and she would have notes put in place. However, I'm just opening my mail that I've received about ten minutes ago and I have a past due notice of $75.
I used to have AHS on my home in Maryland as well as the one in Pennsylvania. And I discontinued the service here because I felt, on several occasion, the contractors, who would come to assess the repairs that were needed, were trying to get more out of me. Some of it was ridiculous things. For example, a light fixture had come from the wall. When the fixture was installed, it may have been heavy and therefore, it came through the wall and in my powder room. But the gentleman who came said that he could not fix it because it was not in his preview. Also, some years ago, I had to have my furnace replaced in the dead of the winter. The contractor was giving me a song and a dance about additional cost. I should not have had to pay his higher cost for his product and if I wanted to upgrade, I could have paid the higher cost plus, it was on AHS to fix it for me.
There was also an instance in Pennsylvania three years ago wherein I had great tenants in there then. There was an issue with dishwasher and the tenants were trying to tell the vendor something to help him and give him good information about what was going on. But they told my tenant that it's not my tenant's house anyway so what do my tenant care about whether it's done right or not? That was inappropriate. I have talked about AHS to so many of my friends, neighbors and I've always elevated them. But from these recent occurrences, I have become very disheartened. I'm very dissatisfied with the vendors and I'm dissatisfied that American Home Shield was so disloyal by letting someone other than myself charge my charge card.
I understand your frustration with the service charges that you are disputing. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

The contractor sent by American Home Shield to service our air conditioners was friendly, clean and he did what he was supposed to do. He also asked us about things that might need to be done and recommended to have the vents cleaned out. And he told me that a gas line was off to one of my air conditioners.

It was leaking downstairs from the upstairs bathroom and it turned out that the seal under the toilet was loose. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the contractor came out a day or two after. They called when they were a few minutes away from the house and they were professional. The guys were there 20 minutes or so and the repair work didn’t take long at all. It was amazing. The technician went out to the truck and got some wax seal they had in there. Since the repair was made, there have been no leaks. I had prepaid my service call fee, so that was easy. That was the first time I did that and we haven’t had anybody come out in a while. I trust American Home Shield and I haven’t had any problems in getting repairs, so I continue renewing my service with them and I've been with them for five years now.

We got a water heater that we had put in a year ago and it went bad. The techs put in another water heater, but then they decided that they needed to check out the electrical first. So then, I had to pay $75 for that consult and then there were no findings. They came back again and installed the water heater and then, I had to pay $250 for the installation of the water heater that we had just purchased a year earlier. We pulled out a lot of money out-of-pocket including $75 for the American Home Shield call. Also, I wasn’t too happy with the first guy that came out. Instead of just saying he was gonna replace the water heater and take care of it for me, he decided that he needed to call an electrician. Even so, the other two were fine and they did their jobs.
We’ve called American Home Shield for things that have gone out and by the time it’s all said and done, it takes a long time to get things fixed. We had air conditioning that went out on the 4th of July last year. They were saying it had to be a hundred degrees for them to come out. It was 99 degrees and they made us wait for four to five days. But other than that, the contractors were fine. I just thought they had already installed one last year that we didn’t have to get the runaround. American Home Shield could be better as far as getting vendors that are ready, willing and able to help and getting somebody out here to fix what they need to do and not drag you along.

We are going to keep AHS and we are going to refer family and friends to them as well.

I went with American Home Shield because of my realtor. I have done two claims with them already and so far, they have been good. The tech that they sent from Eden Pro Service did pretty good. I had an issue with the board on my pool going out and he had to change it. Also, it was my first time owning a pool and he gave me some tips about it. He showed me how to operate my pumps and explained to me where the water comes in through and where it comes out. He helped me label everything and have more understanding of it. AHS is worth it.

My dishwasher wasn't running at all and I contacted American Home Shield and told them what was wrong. They got a hold of the company to do the repair, then the company called me, set a date and time and called just before they came. I called at the end of the week and the tech came on a Monday morning. It was very timely and easy. The tech was here within the four-hour window and once he found out what was wrong, he explained to me why the dishwasher had gone out and put a new part in that he had in his vehicle. He was a very nice man and he was professional. He covered his shoes so he wouldn’t get the house dirty. It used to be that I pay the person here the fee. Now, AHS bills me the fee and there's no money exchanging hands with the contractor, which is easier. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

There are some things that American Home Shield do really well and there are other areas that need improvement. The technicians that they had for a while were good, so our air conditioning and plumbing were good but our high-end appliances are not since they aren’t able to get techs out here. I was waiting and they finally came out, but it was a minor thing that got fixed, and it was more of a mistake on my part. American Home Shield also has a process where if it’s a high-tech or high-end appliance, they would have us hire somebody else to do the work, but it’s very convoluted on how they do it. I have to call them while the technician is here in order for them to verify if they can continue to do the work. Sometimes, it’s in the letter or email as a reminder to do that, but it’s not something very natural for a consumer because I’m involved in the actual thing going on. I just want it repaired and we’ve been waiting for a long time.
So, if I have a statement that shows what the cost of that repair was for that high-end appliance, it should be accepted by the contract especially if they’re the ones that couldn’t find a technician to come out to our house. Yet, they are still covering it. I have two items that I have disputed with them for high-tech appliances and one of which was a technician that they sent out. They didn’t pay because the technician group, A-Tech, requires the homeowner to pay them directly and then to submit it back. The people at the office were confused and they were thinking it was an individual contractor, although it was the contractor that they sent. They said that they also needed a phone call, which is not the case, so I haven’t gotten around to spending the time that it takes to rectify this and I’m out about $500 because of them.
On the other hand, I had a very involved fix for a gas leak at my house and a water leak that was complicated and they covered both. If they didn’t, it would have been very expensive. With the upscale appliance issues I have, if I find the time to deal with it, readdress with them, rewrite the letters and resend the information, then perhaps I’ll get around to it. I didn’t appreciate being declined when I had done all the letters and did all the jumps through the hoop the first time.
The claims were done on their website and the navigation could be improved. There could be an area where it allows us to state specifically what the issue is and why we’re asking for a plumber or something. It might help the coordinators send a better technician out. And also, that way, if they don’t cover that specific thing, they can get back with us. So when we go in, we select what we need. And if we put plumber, it’s plumber, but they have very little differentiation between what it is that we need from that plumber. They should have an area where we can note it more specifically and it might help the coordinators send a better technician out. I would recommend American Home Shield but I would make sure my friends are aware that there are some issues with high-end appliances and that they don’t cover that very well. They have a hard time having techs that will do the work and get out there quickly.

I had a clogged water drain line and my wife called the American Home Shield office. The Cal Valley Appliance Repair technician came out, was prompt and we had a very good interaction. He did his business, took care of the problem and left. He was excellent and I was very satisfied with the experience for that claim. For the problem I had and the price I paid, it was a little overpriced. If I had known that was the problem I could have fixed it myself, but I didn’t know that. Plus, people our age don’t do that kind of work anymore and even though I used to do HVAC work, I can’t get down on my knees and climb ladders anymore. So, having American Home Shield warranty is worth it.

We were having a problem with our refrigerator. The screen that lets us control and have a good temperature of the fridge was not working so we didn’t know if the fridge was working properly or not. American Home Shield was good but we had problems with the vendor that came out to fix the fridge. The person that came out must have been the most talkative person in the world. They ordered two parts for us. When they installed one of the parts, it looks like the skin number is correct but it doesn’t look like it's the right part. One of the features of our fridge, which is one of the main reasons we bought it for, is no longer working.
We contacted American Home Shield again and they sent them out again, and they said, “Nope, this is the right part,” and they closed the claim. I contacted AHS again this past weekend and they reopened the claim and there's a different technician coming out to look at it. As far as the warranty company, we're very happy and they’ve been very responsive.

He had mine, as well as the company's best interest in mind so he did the job quickly, didn't waste any time, and didn't do any more than what was needed to be done. Some of the plumbing was behind a finished basement wall and he was able to get that done without tearing up the wall. I was happy to see that. He was really good and he did a good job. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my AC. My son had been up in the attic and accidentally kicked the switch and we didn't know why it wasn't kicking. So, there was nothing wrong with the AC. The contractor just went up there and flipped the switch. We were looking in the breakers and they went outside and then the unit's not even turning on and it's got a new filter. What is going on? The box maybe got unplugged but no because the unit should be blowing anyways and we didn't think about that switch. But I waited five hours just for somebody to come and flip the switch again.
The contractor set the appointment out for 5 o'clock and he didn't show up 'til 10 o'clock at night. They called me before I left work, which was a little bit before 4 and then like, "Oh, he's gonna be right out there late." "No, that's okay. That's fine." I thought, sometimes I hit traffic. So, I fixed the clock, called and said, "Well, you guys said he would be a little late but can you give me an estimate? Can you check with him, see where he's at?" "Well, he's gonna be there." And that's not the question. I said, "Can you find out?" "Well, that's why we called you to tell you that he's gonna be a little late." I was like, "Okay, you need to find out for me because I cancelled some things that I had and I could've done these things."
I think it was more like close to 7 when I called and they were like, "Well, he's gonna be there." I said, "You need to find out or I'm gonna be calling my insurance to let them know that you guys did this and I'm gonna call and complain." And she's like, "Okay, well, I'll call him." I said, "Okay." So then the guy called me and he's like, "Well, I'm on my 1 o'clock appointment right now. I had to do some paperwork" blah, blah, blah, he's giving me the song and dance. And he said, "I'll be there." And I was like, "But you're on your 1 o'clock appointment and it's like 7 and you said you have a one, two, three, and four and I'm number five?" "I'm gonna be there. I'll be there as soon as I can." I said, "Okay."
Then 8 o'clock comes, 9 o'clock, so about 9:30 or closer to 10, I called him and I said, "You know what? Just cancel this because I have to go to work the next morning and it's already 10 o'clock at night." And he's like, "I'm on your zip code, I'm just around the corner. I was just about to call you. In three minutes, I'll be there." He was here a little bit after that and I was like, "This is ridiculous."
Last year, we called them about the dishwasher once and then the guy came out and he said, "Oh, you just need to use that CLR." We did. It's a piece of crap, it doesn't work. So then, when I renewed the thing again, I told them, "You guys didn't do me right with that dishwasher or whoever you sent. They said I needed CLR and what have you." And they were like, "Oh, we can send someone out and there'll be no charge. We'll send somebody out and we'll be in contact with you." So, I paid the $500 'cause he told me that he was gonna send someone, but no one ever contacted me. So, I still don't have a dishwasher. I don't use that all the time but it would be nice in case if, you had a lot of people and I wanted to just use the dishwasher.

There was an electrical issue with the fluorescent light fixture. My only issue when submitting the claim online with American Home Shield was that, at the drop-down selection under electrical issues, there was no place to actually describe the issue. I had to wait for the electrician to call me so I could describe the issue in more detail other than generally as an electrical issue, but he was very knowledgeable and we quickly set up an appointment. The contractor came within the specified time window and he was in and out in 10 to 15 minutes. The problem was simple enough for him to fix in that visit and everything has been working fine since the repair. So far, I've been very happy with the service of American Home Shield and I would recommend them to people if this company is in their area.

I’ve made at least half a dozen claims with AHS. Sometimes, it’s great and sometimes, they give you the runaround. We had a water heater and the heat exchanger was corroded and leaking. I put a claim then and a guy came out and apparently, there was an electrical wire that looked like something had been chewing on it. AHS denied the claim because they don’t cover pet damage. The problem wasn’t the electrical wire because electrical wires don’t carry water. They tried denying it based on something that’s totally inaccurate. Recently my AC wasn’t working, and I submitted the claim online then I got an e-mail and a text. The contractor came within a very reasonable timeframe and I received good service. The tech was a nice guy and he was very helpful. Since the repair, the AC has been good.

I had an appointment with the contractor and I waited and waited. I called them up and I was told that they would be here in 20 minutes. He showed up and had no circuit panel for the heating service. He told me to wait until Monday because it was almost time for him to go home. So after he left, I called the company and a girl ended up taking the panel to the guy and he came back. They were both unhappy. Also, they had no paperwork for me to sign. They sent me an email after I called them a couple of days later and I had to sign it and I didn't like that. Plus, he was here when he was supposed to be, which is always a big plus. He did the repair very well and I have hot water again. However, American Home Shield should let the contractors go to Home Depot or Lowe's to buy the parts that they need. I could have had hot water the same day they came if AHS let them. But I'd still recommend American Home Shield.

The last time I was on the call for like 30 minutes. While I could do a claim not even five minutes online and be done. Then within 24 hours they’ll contact me. The claim went through right away and they issued somebody to come out within a week. The contractor was good but the only thing that took awhile was getting the part in but when they got it they came and got it up with not even half an hour and everything was running back again. Everything has been excellent so far.

After speaking with a different representative I was able to get a different vendor and get the dishwasher fixed. My only complaint was that we had to contact Whirlpool and ask them to call American Home Shield to explain that their vendor could not accommodate a morning appointment before the vendor was changed. I feel that when I contacted American Home Shield about the problem initially they should have had a way of contacting Whirlpool. Also the first rep should not have stated that I would have to make myself available when it was convenient for the technician. As the customer it should be the other way around.

I requested service for my dishwasher. I was able to schedule a technician to come out. I spoke with the technician prior to his first visit and he was able to bring the part with him based on my description. About a week after his visit the dishwasher quit working again so I called back and scheduled another visit. I was told the same technician couldn’t come out as they no longer service my area but another company could do the work. I scheduled the appointment for the next morning appointment available a week later. The afternoon before they were supposed to be there I got a call telling me they don’t do mornings for my area. I was referred to Whirlpool who is the parent service company. They told me that was the only service company in my area and that I would have to call American Home Shield and have a different company assigned.
When I called American Home Shield I was told that it’s not their problem. I have to get my kids from school in the afternoon. I would have to make myself available in the afternoon to get the dishwasher fixed. I requested a refund since that means I have to get the dishwasher fixed myself and I was told that the service fee only covers them diagnosing the problem and that I couldn’t receive a refund. I then requested a supervisor and was told that they don’t have supervisors but I could speak with the escalation department who is going to tell me the same thing, which means either leave my kids sitting at school so I can wait on a technician who will be there sometime between noon and 5PM or pay for it out of my own pocket and just lose the money I already paid. Needless to say my kids won’t be sitting at school. I very highly recommend not using this company. The customer service is nonexistent.
I understand your concerns with the lack of customer service you have experienced to have the dishwasher repaired through your American Home Shield warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that have occurred.

We have had three claims with American Home Shield so far and they’ve all been good. The heating stuff has all been fixed but the water stuff is still being fixed. Also the refrigerator repair is still being worked on and they’re coming back tomorrow or Wednesday. But everyone’s been really helpful and submitting the claims was super easy. Every contractor has been really nice.
It’s been sort of hit or miss but I don’t think it has to do with the repair people. It just has to do with the house being pretty worn. We have American Home Shield and have been trying to use them for our broken air conditioner. We live in Florida and have children with disabilities that require them to sleep in their rooms - the room that don't have AC. We are in a living hell because AHS won't help us get a new AC. The air conditioner has now been broken for 3 weeks and AHS has sent a technician out more than 5 times. Each time they state there is a different issue with the AC that needs to be fixed, but also tell us that it is totally done and that we need to just get a new one.
When I check with AHS they tell me something different from the contractor and give me the runaround. I finally asked to speak with a manager and (at 8:30 in the morning) they are having too many calls to speak with me... again given the runaround. They are clearly hoping we give up or get so frustrated we just get a new one on our own. They continuously give me the runaround and won't help us get the AC working. My children are suffering as a result. I probably have to get a lawyer involved at this point. Don't use this company unless you're prepared to go to battle and get a lawyer involved. Use someone else!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I put in a claim today with American Home Shield to fix my dripping bathtub’s faucets and a tech is coming out tomorrow. In the past, they did an outstanding job when I had problems in the upstairs bathroom. It took about two weeks though because I have special kinds of faucets in my bathroom and it took some time to find a faucet that matched. The contractor was willing to go out and look for other places where I could get these faucets that they did not have. They also gave me an option to look for myself and I was able to find it myself. Once I got it the kit, I called to let them know and they put it right in. Since the repair, the upstairs bathroom has been outstanding.
Also, there’s a part missing in my air conditioner right now and AHS covered it but they saw that the technician told me that I may be better buying another air conditioner. So, it will cost me about $900 to get freon back in. The air condition people looked like they're trying to sell me an air conditioner instead of trying to fix it. I didn’t like that too much but my experience with AHS has been outstanding, so far. Most of the AHS reps that I talked to were very thorough. This morning, I had a difficulty understanding the young lady due to a language barrier. Nevertheless, I just had to be patient and listen and no one has given me any bad information.

Submitting a claim on American Home Shield's website was very easy. Our dryer wasn’t heating and the technician who repaired it was very pleasant. The dryer has been performing perfectly fine since then. The only thing that I had trouble with is that they only work Mondays through Fridays, and I work from Mondays through Fridays. Other than that, I love having my warranty because I don’t have to worry about anything. My water heater went out this year and so did my dryer, and they both got taken care of.

I'm not very happy with AHS right now. They replaced the water heater which a vendor put in incorrectly, and my contractor had to take it out and put it back in again. Now, we have an ice maker that has taken almost seven weeks to get replaced because it did not work and we are getting a huge runaround. Our doors to our independent ovens are broken and they won't shut. AHS called me and they said they'd give me $308.88 to fix them but they're 30 years old and there were no parts. The guy who came to fix the ice maker was supposed to remove all of the parts of the built-in ovens to have them fixed. We usually submit claims online and then we get called by the vendor that comes out and does the repairs. The response time from the vendors is usually anywhere from 24 to 48 hours, which is acceptable.
I'm a real estate broker and last year, I bought 67 policies for my clients. $27,000 plus out of my pocket and my clients were all complaining about AHS. The people who answered the phone that they call are so rude. And now that I have a claim, because I just bought this house, I can see what my clients were complaining about. AHS reps who answer the phones need to work on their people skills. And when AHS can't find parts of a 30-year old appliance, they need to replace it.
We are very rural where we live and our options to have the garage door fixed is very limited as there are only two vendors in Humboldt County. People are complaining about AHS, but it's also hurting businesses because it's hard for a consumer to separate AHS and their rules and regulations from the vendor. So it's not just hurting AHS. It's also hurting Thomas Home Center who's putting in the garage doors, and that's so unfair. I had a client who said that Thomas Home Center lied to AHS and now AHS won't fix their garage door opener. But when I called Thomas Home Center, they said they haven't even talked to AHS. Some people are losing business because of what American Home Shield is doing and that's really sad to me. After I speak with my rep and if I don't get satisfaction for two of my clients that are dealing with the same things that I'm dealing with, I probably will stop using AHS.

We had a claim for our heat pump, which wasn’t producing hot air. We submitted it to American Home Shield over the phone and they were great. The contractor was there within a few days. He was willing to come out the next day, but I wasn’t gonna be home so we put it off for a day or two. When he came, he spent all the time that he needed to fix it, and stayed for four hours. The one thing that bothers me was that the contractor didn't wear booties and I have lighter carpets. He was a nice guy but it was a little disappointing that he didn’t have that common courtesy for me as the homeowner. I showed him the booties and said, "You need a pair of these.” He was like, “Oh, yeah.” And he just walked away. It was like, “Here’s your size. Wear your booties.“ However, he didn’t wear it so the minute he left, I frantically cleaned the carpet so that it wouldn’t stain. Other than that, the heat pump has been performing fine now.

Having to be able to submit the claim online and not have to talk to anyone is good. Then I talked to the people they would send. The contractor was really helpful. He told me that the company was actually trying to see on replacing it, and they didn’t really want to replace it. But he just said it was broken and that it needed to be replaced. They took a while and they got it done. The contractors were great. I have nothing but praise for them. They were quick, clean and kept me updated. They fixed everything. They knew right off what was wrong and checked it and installed a new one. Everything was fine. The disposal is working great now.

When my furnace was blowing air but no heat was coming out, I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and it was super easy. Everything was super easy to file, and it was really quick response. A contractor usually comes within a day or two. I actually had somebody come out twice that did a second service. It was the same guy both times that came out, and the person that was communicating with me was super responsive and worked out with my schedule pretty well. They showed up right on time, super professional. He knew what he was talking about. He was able to go straight to the thing that was wrong.
He was able to make the repair, but it turned out there was something else going on, and they ended up coming back out and said the unit needed to be replaced, and got it done right away. I was supposed to be doing a cash in lieu of repair and the furnace company sent just all the information out there with AHS. But I haven't heard anything back yet since that time, for at least a few weeks now. But I have a good experience so far. I'm just waiting on my call. Everything has been super professional.

The claim submission process was easy and then Epic Mechanical came. The electrician did not fix the dimmer but he told me what was wrong with the lights because he didn't have one and he said it wasn't covered by the Home Shield warranty. He said that the dimmer was working, that it just needed a stronger dimmer and the wiring didn't need to be upgraded. While the flickering lights still has to be solved, he checked everything and shortened the chandelier in my dining room. On the same day, I got a call from the actual company who was gonna repair it and they made a quick appointment. They came over the next day, and then we went on ahead and ordered the part. Then American Home Shield forgot all about it. Three weeks later, I had to call the contractor and I had to call American Home Shield. I called and emailed nothing. He came to the house and he was really nice and pleasant. I told him what the problem was and he got to work. The back of the toilet needed some work and he changed all of that. He took care of everything. He even did an extra caulking. He could’ve gotten away without doing that, but he did it, which was nice. He was very quick and he cleaned up. There was a leak in my water heater and I wasn’t aware of that at the time because the water heater kept working. It’s a mobile home and the tank is located outside and when I saw it was leaking, I put in a claim with American Home Shield. I called AHS on Saturday and the plumber called on Monday, then he came over on Tuesday. He looked at it and he took a picture of it so he could make sure he got the right part. Then he had to order the part. Mobile home water heaters have the inlet for the cold water located at the bottom and regular water heaters have the inlets at the top of the water heater. There are two inch pipes around the top. Mobile homes have them on the bottom because the waterline runs along the frame of the house and comes up through the flooring. It’s convenient that way.
The plumbing company told me that they had to get the water heater with the inlets on top and that meant they had to extend the pipes from the bottom up to the top and that would be an extra $350. They couldn’t just buy a water heater that was made for a mobile home with the inlet at the bottom. Plus they couldn’t replace the water heater with the original one which is a nationally known brand. It’s a Rheem’s. Home Depot, Ace Hardware and all the plumbing supplies carry them. I should not have had to pay $350 for repiping because it wouldn’t have been necessary. The cost of the water heater is higher for mobile homes. Those are convertible for either natural gas or propane. So the regular water heater is lower in price but it requires the additional plumbing. So they go with that water heater and then charge me for the extra plumbing. I wasn’t quite happy with that but there’s nothing I can do.
When I called AHS and asked why I was being charged extra for the plumbing, the girl who answered the phone wasn’t good at answering the phone. She didn’t understand my question and would call a supervisor. Every time I’d ask her a question, she goes back to the supervisor and it’s another 15 minute wait. Then, the last time I talked to them, they said my claim was denied. So I called the plumber and by the time I got to talk to him, I was already going to the hardware stores and looking for a water heater so that I could have it installed myself because I was told I was denied. The plumber then called American Home Shield and they told him that I was not denied and that only the $350 for the extra plumbing was denied. But that was never explained to me. I thought the whole claim was denied.
AHS could’ve done better. Every time I call them they give me the runaround. First they told me my claim was denied because of normal wear and tear and they don’t cover that, so they denied the claim. They could’ve put someone on the line who actually knew what they were talking about and explained it to me. It seemed to me that I had office workers who didn’t have a clue about plumbing or any other home trades. All they know is what they do in the office. They’d never actually worked with their hands so they don’t know what’s involved. AHS paid off though, so it’s a good thing. Plus, the plumber who installed the heater was a very good worker and did an excellent job. But I have to be very careful when I talk to AHS to get someone who can explain in words that I understand because they explained to the plumber but not to me, the consumer.

They sent someone out to check it to see if it could be repaired, and the service person called them up and said that it wasn't worth repairing. The amount of money would be too much for a repair, and the gentleman suggested that it be replaced. We set up a delivery date which took a week and a half. Luckily I was able to use that time to find a washing machine. There were different delivery dates in different areas, and I had to coordinate with the person coming to do the installation to hook it up. The gentleman that came was very pleasant. We got a home warranty from the moment I bought the house from the negotiations. The issue started out as a leak on the multi-port valves. The woman had multiple houses and she wasn't at them all the time so she really couldn't maintain them like she needed to. She had a local she used to repair it at a cheap fix. And instead of spending the right amount of money and have it replaced, it was an epoxy fiberglass plug job and it was okay.
It wasn't something I was really worried about because it wasn't excessive, like a drip leak. Then the chlorinator busted and just because it's the original chlorinator, it's wetting inside of those PVC pipes and they get weak. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield, and while the contractor was there, he found out that the Polaris pump was leaking as well so he took it apart and something wasn't working on the inside and it wasn't repairable so he had to replace it. He did everything while he was there and it's perfect.
Thanks for you feedback Chris. We are happy knowing that your issue is resolved. Thanks for choosing AHS. Have a great week.

My central air unit stopped working and I called the number at American Home Shield. The claims rep was absolutely professional, and they were really informative too. However, the first technician they sent out was a different company and he blew us off. He was nice but it wasn’t a concern to him that our air conditioning wasn’t working. He didn’t even run a test on it. He said we needed to charge it, and I said, “It was working and then it stopped, so how can it just be a charge?” Obviously it leaked out, but he said he couldn't run a test on the line. He was a plumber that worked for a plumbing company, and that was kind of concerning. He was also gonna charge me $65 a pound for Freon that he would put in and he couldn’t tell me how many pounds he was gonna use.
I called American Home Shield back and they sent someone new that was from an air conditioning company. He found that the compressor wasn’t working and he ran a test on the line, and it was leaking. So, if we had put all that money back into it, it would’ve leaked back on it anyway. Now the unit is absolutely great. Today it’s supposed to get up to 90 degrees, so I’m excited to have air conditioning. We went a few days without it and the owner of the park here had to open the pool up for us so we could cool down. American Home Shield remedied the situation very quickly. The heating element went out on my water heater. I called American Home Shield and the contractor they sent got right to it. He had the part for it, got it fixed and got us back hot water. But I still have an outstanding issue that hasn't been resolved. In 2016 my wall-mounted microwave quit and so the serviceman came out. The microwave was old enough that they could not get charged and it was gonna have to be replaced. AHS ordered and shipped out a microwave unit that turned out to be a counter-top unit. I didn't know this until it went out a couple of months ago. At that point, they’ve refused to do anything about it because it was a counter-top unit and it was not covered in the policy even though the counter-top unit was one that they ordered and had put in.
There was also a problem with getting a contractor to install the microwave. They told me to find somebody who can install the microwave which I did. But it didn't have proper ventilation. At this point, I'm alone with no microwave and I had to go around with the people from AHS. The guy that I talked to about six weeks ago, said he would get in, look into it further and he'd get back to me but he never did. I'm very dissatisfied with the fact that all these things were not of my doing. He replaced the inside blower and everything works fine now. It was a quick fix. The work that the contractor did was great.
However, for the faucet, we had two different people here and they didn't do a good job. They said that we needed an air duct for the dishwasher, but that wasn't true. The furnace quit heating for no reason at all and the problem turned out to be the thermostat. The contractor sent by AHS was good and he knew what he was doing. They’ve had to work there for a little bit but it’s been good since the repair. We've never had any problems since we’ve been with American Home Shield. And my experience submitting the claim usually has been pretty good. I speak to someone at AHS and within 24 hours they somehow find someone who's qualified to do the job, and that person comes out, looks our items over, and gives us a good explanation and things that we can do to help keep things going. And like that, they’re usually very good.
I’d recommend American Home Shield to a lot of people. We got a friend that may be contacting AHS pretty soon to set up a system too. When I worked at Lowe’s as cashier, I had a lot of older people come in and say that they were worried about money and cash coming up, or to get certain things repaired and replaced. And I told them all the time that they couldn't go wrong by going with American Home Shield. I’d rather pay $65 a month for the rest of my life than have to worry about all those big huge bills coming in all at once.

Buyer beware. I have been an AHS customer for many years. I've had more bad experiences than good. Mostly you will pay a lot out of pocket for repairs and AHS will not and cannot give you a breakdown of the reason why according to their customer service agents. I have been going in circles with their customer service department for a week. I have been told that such and such department will call you back within 24 hours, then told by another agent that that department does not call customers. I have asked to speak with supervisors and been denied. I have asked to speak with their escalation department, no one was available. I asked to speak with the authorization department, agent didn't have ability to connect me. I asked to speak with contract relations, again they don't speak to customers. They will not email me any information, they only use snail mail. Agent does not have direct numbers to anyone who can help you.
I asked for a breakdown of what was being covered financially by AHS for my repair and was told that they don't give that information out. I contacted the AHS contractor and asked for an itemized bill. The bill that I received was far from itemized. This company is not a transparent company. They will not treat you well as a customer if you have problems. Some of the contract companies they employ are shady. I made a complaint to AHS in regards to a plumbing company and nothing was done about it. I hope this helps save some poor soul out there thinking about using AHS as their insurance for their home appliances, A/C, etc. It is not worth it. Either go with another company (investigate heavily first) or start an emergency savings account.

Diagnostic service just to assess the leaking water heater took about 4 days. Then another week just to get the water heater which is widely available. Now that the water heater is available, the installment is going to take another 4 days due to scheduling of plumbing company. Each time American Home Shield has been used, the service just to diagnose takes too long and then the tech has to submit for approval of even the tiniest part. This adds time to any waiting period that the consumer has to endure.
The first experience was with air conditioning unit which took almost 5 tech visits by various providers and 3 weeks in 100+ degree heat. I had small children in the house and it was miserable. This is the second claim with them 2 yrs later and the experiences is not good. They really need to give their techs more latitude to make decisions about parts below a set amount. They also need to have better response times and turnaround times for critical things like AC and water heaters.

This is the first time I ever took the time to even bother writing a bad review. However this company made me so angry I had to warn others about them. First, they will do almost anything to find a way not to pay for repairs. Secondly, they use third rate vendors and contractors when they do decide to do the work. I had a problem with my circuit board that controls my pool. First the repairman wouldn't fix one of the issues because he stated bugs created the problem, never showing me the part. Secondly the repairman left telling me everything was fixed and working.
I tried that night to run the hot tub and the control unit didn't even recognize that I had one on the system. I called them back, they literally lied and said it was working, then, after questioning them further they admitted it was only working on service mode. So I asked for them to come back and fix it. They wouldn't without charging me another service call. I asked American Home Shield to step in and help me, they totally bailed and stated I would have to take them to Civil Court. This company is a RIP-OFF. Save your money and choose your own more qualified vendors.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your hot tub repaired. Also, I understand that there are a few issues with the technicians that have been sent to service the malfunction. I would be glad to speak with you and get everything resolved.

I had put in a claim to American Home Shield in early March for my broken steam broiler and it seemed to have been ignored so I followed up on the phone. The adjuster that I spoke to said that there was nobody in the network who could help me but I was welcome to find my own repair person, submit an estimate and that American Home Shield would take it from there. I had two people come out and look at it. I accepted one proposal and I sent that to American Home Shield about a month ago but I received no response.
I called early this week and I was told that the workman was supposed to have called in while he was at my house, which is something I wasn’t aware of. A written estimate from the workman was not acceptable, and so my claim was denied. They said that I shouldn’t have gone ahead with the work without their authorization. I said I did not and I was waiting to hear back from them and I heard nothing. Then, I got a denial letter. It made no sense, so my experience was very unsatisfactory.
They said I’m welcome to appeal it so the issue seemed to be a matter of formal reacceptance. After the fact, they asked to have the workman call them while he was on my property. To get anybody to do anything in real time is next to impossible and so I interpreted their request for an estimate to be something inviting, which to me is always better than having somebody talk to you. I would tell friends to be very careful about deciding on engaging with AHS. They might be good for small projects and simple repairs, like an oven door but if something appears to be major, my impression at this point is that the company will deny a claim without a legitimate basis. I would discourage someone from using American Home Shield.

We moved in this house in September 2015 and we have American Home Shield ever since. When it was leaking at the hose bib last year, I had it turned off. When I opened it up this spring, it leaked like crazy, so I called American Home Shield. They sent out Stilwell Plumbing and when the their tech came out, he took the guts out and fixed the hose bib. He said there was debris in there. Then the valve that shuts the water off inside started dripping. It wasn’t a bad leak, but I called them back for that. When they came out, they took the packing on it and everything was fine.
American Home Shield does things slowly but surely. And they do not cover a lot of stuff. I had an outside light put up one time which wasn’t working and they said they didn’t cover that. Then, I had the issue with the hose bibs and they said they no longer cover those. I wasn’t too happy with that. I would not go back with AHS and I would probably go with BGE Home because I don’t understand not covering the hose bib or a non-working night light outside. They're both part of the house and for four hundred and fifty-something dollars a year, I assumed they would cover those kinds of stuff.

Our recent claim with American Home Shield was for the heater. We decided to try the pool here because of the weather, but it was not effective. Submitting the claim was easy. I just made a phone call and they set up the service. It was extremely simple and the turnaround time was fast. I called the insurance company to see if the repair was covered and it was, so we had the contractor do the repair.
I called the contractor to evaluate. They came down and evaluated the situation, and they were good. The heater was an older unit but they were able to test everything out. The communication was great and the contractor let us know exactly what was wrong and the time frame for the repair. They had to order some parts, so we waited a few days for the parts to come in, then the repair was done. The contractor showed us everything that was wrong and everything that they had repaired in the unit. Then they walked us through to show that the unit was fully operational, so we were happy with the work they did.
The unit's performance has been excellent since it was repaired. As a matter of fact, we were just using it yesterday for the jacuzzi. So we're now able to use it on demand and we can expect it to be there when we need it. In the two or three times that we've used American Home Shield, their service has been seamless. If you want somebody that’s gonna protect your investment and not give you the runaround, American Home Shield is the best way to go.

My wife told me that there was a leak on the sink so I called American Home Shield. A plumber then came out and said it was the garbage disposal. So he put in a new one. I had never checked it after that because the guy said it was done. About a month went by, and my wife said it was leaking. So it started leaking again or had been leaking all this time. I called them back, and the guy said it wasn’t his responsibility. He needed to call an appliance guy for the dishwasher. So the guy for the dishwasher came out, unclogged the dishwasher drain hose and connection, and put it all back together, and it hasn’t leaked since.
My issue was I ended up buying a garbage disposal when I didn’t really have to if the first guy had just looked a little bit further. And I paid three charges of $125 each. I don’t think the first guy was thorough enough, but things happen. I’m not dissatisfied. I'm just a little saddened by the experience that I've had so far. I was in the appliance service industry myself, and I know things can happen, so mistakes can be made. So I understand that. And I might recommend them depending on the income of the people I would recommend them to. A lot of people can't afford $125 service charge anymore plus the initial fee upfront.

I had a hot water heater issue where the pilot light went out. I went online to submit the claim to American Home Shield. I had a fine experience navigating their website and the rep was able to get someone out the next day. The contractor was Ace Plumbing. Ace’s service was fine and they replaced the thermocouple on the water heater. However, AHS didn’t have a good emergency service. I had a furnace problem over a very cold weekend and they were unable to help me at all. I put in an online request and got a notice from the heater people that they got the request and they would contact me within 24 hours. That wasn’t good. So I contacted the contractor and they said they couldn’t do anything about it because they would have to go through an approval process through American Home Shield in order to do off hours repair and they didn’t believe that that was going to be approved.
I ended up having to cancel that request and paid a local heating air person off hours to come and fix the furnace for me. I took care of it myself with a company that I knew would be there almost immediately and they were. So I’m not happy about emergency after hours’ responses, otherwise AHS is fine. Also I don’t pay in advance because for situations like that I was afraid something might happen so I don’t pay until the work is complete.

But the claims process was easy and they were able to get a contractor out quickly. The contractors were very pleasant and nice people. I did it online and it was easy and it took me about five minutes. Two days later, I had the service tech out and they fixed the issue in about an hour. The tech was great and the air conditioner has been working fine when I use it. It's been cool.

I had a power outage in one section of the house. I submitting the claim online and it was very simple. And I prefer the online way since through the phone, it takes a while sometimes for a representative to answer. The contractor sent out was very nice. The problem turned out to be something really simple. It was a fuse detector that we had plugged in that was out. We’re able to use the phone and fax machine now. One should give AHS a try.

My water heater is 14 years old and the pilot kept on shutting down so I called American Home Shield. It was my first claim and when I submitted it, everything worked out fine. But the lady from AHS told me that they wouldn’t be out here for three days and I told her I needed it taken care of right away. She said she would see what she could do but it was not an emergency. My kids, my wife, I and everybody taking cold showers is not good. So, she ended up calling the Lake Elsinore plumbing place and they came the next day. My wife said that the contractor was a nice and polite guy. He came in, took care of it, knocked on our door and said it is fixed and he went off. He was there for about 40 minutes and since then, it’s been working fine. The company called me back and did a follow-up call with me. Everything went good and I’m glad I got AHS. I recommended them to my boss and he got them too.
Its really good knowing that your issue is resolved. Thanks for providing your feedback Elias. Have a great week. Thanks for choosing AHS.

I was pleasantly surprised with the experience I had with American Home Shield. I wish I had got this thing a long time ago. I filed a claim with them for a plumbing leak on a spigot outside and it was very easy. Their reps were very nice and accommodating. We set an appointment and then the contractor came out. He was great as well and he explained to me that he could not do the other spigot because it was hooked up to my water softener. He thought we should call somebody who is more experienced with the water softener because we thought that's what's leaking not just the actual. But he fixed what he needed to and that was it. The spigots have been doing great since and had not leaked all over the place like it was doing. I definitely have recommended everybody in my age bracket to get American Home Shield's service because of these things that we cannot do ourselves anymore.
Great Dawn! We are happy to hear that we were able to resolve your water softener issue. We look forward to servicing your future warranty needs. Thanks for choosing AHS. Have a good week.

I bought a house and it was leaking on the inside from the upstairs bathroom down to the lower floor ceiling. I went online to American Home Shield website and submitted a claim. They said a certain company will call and contact me within 24 hours and they did. And they made it here out a couple of days later. The contractor who came out here was very polite and gave me some information. He diagnosed the issue. He looked and saw that there are holes in the grout and it had brittled away. It wasn't sealed properly so the water was getting down and leaking into the floor. But the contractor was a plumber so he doesn't do tile work so I had to call a tile person up and we fixed it ourselves. I had a couple of good experiences with AHS and I recommend to use it if you needed to.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a garage door opener. We made the call, they sent us the link and the service provider called us and made an appointment probably within an hour or two. We're very, very pleased with the service and the professionalism. And he repaired it in less than half an hour. The contractor was excellent and the garage door opener is now flawless. We've used AHS three times in the last four years and it's always been good quality service. They got good product with a decent price.

I've had three recent claims with AHS. One for the refrigerator, one for the garage openers, and one for the heater. The heater was just a loose wire and the claim went really well. The guy from Dulce came here the first thing in the morning and it took him five minutes to find the wire that was loose and fix it. Then, for the garage openers, AHS chose not to cover that at all because they told me it was a luxury. It was ridiculous. I paid $303 for that out of pocket and they also charged me the $108, which I called the customer service for. They were supposed to remove the charge, but they still haven’t.
Then the fridge that had a leaky water dispenser took two weeks to get fixed, but it was Sears' problem since their logistics and getting parts out is terrible. Plus, you have to deal with scheduling with their offshore, which is in Malaysia and their English was terrible. It was just a fiasco. We've been with AHS for 12 years and every year there's something that they don't cover. The service is starting to get to a point where it’s not worth it anymore. It’s starting to get ridiculous. I’m actually starting to shop around for others.

My husband noticed that there was a leak under the sink in one of the bathrooms. So we called American Home Shield and they were very pleasant and easy to work with. They set everything up. And then I received an email reminder that the contractor was coming and when the appointment would be. Then the company called and said that somebody would be there during the appointed time. And the guy showed up right away. He could not have been nicer and took care of everything. He also had the parts that he needed in the truck. I’ve been telling everyone that they need to get a home warranty. We’re new to this area so we do not have the pulse on who to call yet. So AHS has been wonderful because they’re sending reputable people and they’re finding them for us, so we don’t have to do that search. I had an easy experience with American Home Shield’s website. I filed an electric claim online and had someone out within a couple of days. The contractor from Sunbelt Electric was very professional. He explained what he was doing and did a good job. He also cleaned up after himself before he left and got everything working. But I did not like the garage person. It was something about the garage door work. I came home at night, and there was no light. The contractors told me that they didn’t do anything electrical and that my family member could have gone up the ladder and put in a light bulb for me, but they wouldn't do that. When he came out awhile ago, he didn’t explain what was going on or what they did and what they didn’t do. So, I sent him a letter saying that the work wasn’t done, then I got a long letter that was unprofessional and really nasty. That aside, I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield.

We were having some drippy faucets in a couple of the rooms at the house, so we called a service for that. I filed the claim with American Home Shield initially online and that was easy. And then they sent me a correspondence back to let me know that a provider would be in touch with me within 24 hours to set up an appointment, which they did. Then the service provider came out and found out that there were some parts that needed to be ordered. They talked to Delta, the maker of our faucets and they were able to get them to send out the parts that were needed to do the fixes on the different faucets. We just had to wait for that. It took five days for the company to mail out the hardware and then the service provider came back out and installed everything. And everything went really well.
The contractor was really nice, very professional, and very knowledgeable. They got everything done in a timely manner and the only thing they had to wait on was the manufacturer to send out the stuff and that was beyond their control. But the service provider themselves were very friendly so we were happy with the service. There are no more drips and we were able to get all the leaks fixed without service cost fees. American Home Shield is really good to have if you use it on quite a few occasions. In the long run, it ends up saving you money so that you don't have a huge service cost. It's definitely worth having as it takes some of the pressure off when as far as some things happening with the house. It makes it a lot easier when you know you can just call somebody and they come out for the service call. I'm glad that we have American Home Shield.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield for a plumbing issue. When the Advance Home technician showed up, it seemed like he didn't wanna be there. When he came in, it wasn't like a, "Hey, how's it going? How's everything doing?" It was just like a, "Show me what you got going on." And so I showed what I had going on and he said he didn't smell anything so he wasn't gonna do anything. Also, there was a filler valve in my upstairs bathroom which was creating a whistle and he said that that was what was whistling but that they don't replace that. Then when we went back downstairs, I asked if he was going to check around for anything that could be causing the sewer smell in my bathroom and my laundry room. He said he would put in there that they may need to scope the line but that they don't do that, so it would be a different company.
I was like, "So basically, there's absolutely nothing you're gonna do?" And he said, "Pretty much." He was at my house for maybe 10 minutes and then, he filled out his little paperwork, threw it on the table, and walked out. There was no "Hey, man. Have a good day." Also, I was under the impression that he was putting in his work order or his response back to American Home Shield that the line may need to be scoped to see if there was something blocking it and that they don't do that. He told me that if they were gonna send out another company, they would contact me.

I filed my claim online and American Home Shield passed it to two different companies. One was Mason’s Plumbing who was great and I was fine with. The other one was Long & Burton, whose guy I can’t stand and I don’t want back in my house. I put in a work order and American Home Shield dispatched it to him. He called but I had a doctor’s appointment and I wasn’t home. I asked if we could do it the next day and I was going to schedule a time in the afternoon. He said he would call me back the next morning and we would schedule the time. He called and I wasn’t home doing another job.
I said I needed it scheduled for that afternoon and he said he was 10 minutes from our house and that we had discussed it the day before. I said that we discussed that he wouldn’t let me make an appointment and that he was going to call me back to reschedule it which he did and I told him that I needed it that afternoon. He said that somebody will get back with me, but I didn’t hear anything for three days. So, I called and he said that he didn’t know why somebody didn’t get back with me. He said that he shuffled it to somebody else to do it but they didn’t do it. So, I ended up waiting for five days before he could come and get to me. He came but there was nothing he could do and he said that they would have to send somebody else. I waited five days for absolutely nothing for Mason’s Plumbing to come and fix the issue.
I’ve worked with AHS several times and they were great. I called them and they said that the next time I put in a work order, I could call and let them know if Long & Burton pops up on my deal. The first lady I talked to at AHS thought she had me on hold and was saying some nice things about me. She was going to transfer me to somebody else and when she realized she didn’t, she hung-up on me. I was furious because my house was full of sewer gas, which was not healthy for my family and I was needing it to be a more important issue. But none of their staff seemed to care. I apologized to the second lady because I was already irritated after being talked crap on. I already paid for their services and paid my $75. She clearly had an attitude and she said I had to call somebody else.
I made the third call and specifically asked, “Is there anybody that can help me that their system actually works?” The rep said that I would have to call somebody else. I had to call back and see. I said I wanted to talk to a manager, but they didn’t do that. Their system was down which I understand but I was wondering how they can be a company that is in charge of helping people when nobody can help anybody. All I needed them to do was to put in there that I didn’t want Long & Burton services and that I needed it done. It was Friday, so I can’t wait until Monday and I needed somebody to call me. I’m really unhappy at the moment.

I love American Home Shield. We had a bunch of issues at the same time with the plumbing and the oven, and they helped us. My bathroom upstairs was leaking down under my kitchen and my oven died, all on the same day, so we opened up a service request for both of them. It was really snowy and rough weather but somebody was sent out to our house within two days to fix the pipe in my bathroom. And then we had a new oven within two weeks. So all of my issues were taken care of within a two-week time period and everybody was really nice about it. The experience was awesome.
At first, I called because the same day that those things happened, my roof also started leaking into my house. So we called to see if there was anything with the warranty that would work with our roof and there wasn’t. I feel like I'm able to find out more of the things that are covered under my warranty through the phone than online. Other than that, the website was really easy to navigate and it walked me through the process step-by-step and it was done.
We got a text message immediately telling us what our time was. The guy from Moos Plumbing in Sioux City was awesome and they stayed in contact with us despite the really bad weather and roads to update us. The contractor also called me, apologized and asked if there was something that we needed because he was gonna come out himself with the oven. They came to check the stove but the guy didn’t really know what he was doing. He didn’t know anything about the oven, so they just winged it as my oven is also really old.

I thought that there was a burning smell in my air conditioner. I called the fire department to see if there was a problem and I didn’t want to sleep at night then all of a sudden, I have my house caught on fire. It was colder here and so, I called AHS to file a claim for the air conditioner. The contractors came out and told me that everything looked fine. And that it might be the dust burning, but he suggested that I call my heating people because there might be a problem with the motor because they were not electricians. They knew a lot of stuff and the contractor also told me that he could smell the smell and it could be that the motor is burning out.
I said okay. So when I called the electricians, there was a problem with the motor. I had to call them to come back out because the heating worked for a while, and then it stopped working. The air conditioner wouldn't come on either. It turned out that when you take the top off to check the box where you turn on and off the air and turn the temperature, there were metal pieces in there that have to touch so that it works when you change the temperature or when you change it from air to heating and they weren't connecting. It had been there for a while and people fooling with it. After a while, it wore out. The electrician knew right away and showed me what was happening. He put a new unit on, and it has been perfect ever since. The new unit was easy to use. I was really pleased and I did not feel that they were trying to cheat me or tell me something that wasn't right.
So far, the people who came out from AHS to took care of the service that AHS needed were very, very good and got it taken care of. They were pleasant, professional, and timely. So, I was really happy with that. I had a good experience this last time with American Home Shield. The people who came out were very polite and courteous. Also, I was happy with the person that I talked to on the phone. However, I had a previous experience some time ago with the person at American Home Shield when I called to get help, and I had to contact the corporate office to get it taken care of, and it was taken care of immediately. But since then, I have not had any problems at all and I'm very happy with them.
I like the service of AHS and it's something that others should get. It's like an insurance for your car, something I feel that you really need because if you need it taken care of right away, they're there. I know that I could go for years paying my monthly premium and nothing goes wrong, but when I need something, it's gonna be there for me.
Hi, Iris. We are so pleased to know that your HVAC issues were taken care of. I would have been so nervous regarding a burning smell, calling the fire department was quick thinking. Our apologies for the past bad service but glad to hear that you have not had any other issues.

We had a leaky hot water tank. I got it early. I filed a claim with AHS online and this experience was better than the last one. The actual online filing of the claim was super easy. The contractor this time was Sigmond Plumbing and I put the claim in at like 6:15 on Monday morning. They called me at 8:00 and were at the house before 11:00. But the one before was for my stove. The temperature gauge was acting funny and it was the mother board in the stove. That one took over a month and a half to get resolved.
It took them two days to call me back and I called them to set up the appointment. Then they had to come out and diagnosed it. My husband was there for that one and they couldn’t locate the issue. I don’t know whether it was him not telling me that they were gonna get a part or they didn’t know if they were gonna get a part. But they went back, called American Home Shield and like three weeks later, the lady called and she’s, “Yeah. Can we come to install your parts?” I was like, “Well, I’m getting up new parts? That’s awesome!” And then it took another few days to get that installed. But then once it was done it was just great. I'm glad that this one wasn't like that and it was done within hours.
Hello, Mrs. Tombillo. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience. Glad to know everything was resolved.

I have what's called a portable spa hot tub and I had a problem with the circulating pump which threw up. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and I got an immediate response in terms of identifying the contracting company. The following day I got a call from the contracting company to set up the schedule and the technician that was sent out to work on the tub was very good. He diagnosed the problem immediately and worked through getting a new pump and getting it installed. He gave me follow-up calls the day after to see if everything was still okay, and that was very much appreciated. We've been a customer of American Home Shield for a little while since moving to Arizona. We've had several claims and the guys at American Home Shield have handled them very nicely. We're more than happy with American Home Shield's service. They're well-worth the money.

Everything went well and the performance of the appliance since the repair is excellent. Other people should go ahead and get into the program with AHS if they want to be more secure for their appliances at home.

He even helped me with something else. I just got the house wherein the electric outlet was put on backwards and I asked him to do it and he did. Also, he noticed that I didn't have a power home protection surge, which isn't covered by the warranty, and he gave me a card and told me to contact the company when I was ready to get that. We have tenants in the property and they made an initial call to American Home Shield regarding the heater of our heating and air system. The original contractors that American Home Shield sent were not able to complete the job so we had to work with American Home Shield to get us a new contractor. I made two or three different calls. In the last call I made, the representative was helpful but he was not able to effectively understand what I was saying about what he needed to do. It was frustrating to try to navigate the internal policy with Home Shield with this person who I don’t believe English was his first language. He and I had a language barrier.
At that point, it had been four weeks that my tenants were without heat and I was trying to explain that to the person on the phone. He was not able to connect with the contractor to verify their status and he kept telling me that they could not drop that contractor and hire a new one through their system until he confirmed the status with that contractor. I told them to figure that one out while I wait on the line. He did that but he was not able to contact them. I called and just got frustrated. I called back, talked to the same guy, and he tried to tell me again that we couldn’t get a new contractor until there was a status update from the existing one.
Finally, the guy got a status update. The contractor had originally ordered the wrong part which was the original problem that was why it had taken so long. They had some sort of miscommunication in their system with their supplier part, and they would have to physically connect with the supplier to get the part. I told them that it was not my problem and they needed to find a new contractor to get my heater fixed. So, it took the better part of an entire evening to get this worked out. He got me a new contractor on board and the new contractors were able to get the part in. They ordered the correct part the first time, got it installed and got it fixed within a week. So, there was quite a bit of back and forth and I was very frustrated, and so were my tenants, with the situation. And to be perfectly honest, the gentleman I spoke with at Home Shield didn’t know how to solve the problem.
And my tenants should have been contacted by American Home Shield way earlier than I called because the claim had been opened for four weeks, and it was difficult to be without heat in February. They were relying on the gas log in the house to keep the bottom level of the home warm. As a landlord, it was not acceptable for my tenants to have to deal with that. Also, it shouldn’t even get to me because, by that time, it was way overdue. And my tenants shouldn’t have had to wait that long.
Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield as a company itself. We've had them for a long time now and we had claims with them on other properties and I've not had this much problem with them. However, if I'm gonna ding American Home Shield on anything, it's gonna be on this particular representative’s ability to communicate and to understand me. That was the breakdown and I would warn other people about it. I would say that if they get on the phone with somebody who doesn’t understand them, they should get the claim escalated or call back and get somebody else.
Hello, Cheryl. Thank you for your patronage over the years. Please let us know when you need us to assist with an issue again.

I just bought this condo and was offered the American Home Shield warranty on appliances. That seemed like a good thing rather than try to go after the owners to replace things that seemed iffy. AHS should inspect some of the things before they offer the warranty. This condo was originally an old rental and the appliances were really beaten up.
My stove was the original stove that had been put in here in the ’70s. I was assured that it worked but when I moved in, I checked the temperature and it wasn’t holding the temperature to bake things correctly. So I called for service the first time and the original contractor that AHS used gave me the creeps. He said one thing to me in person then told American Home Shield something totally different. He said he fixed the stove on the spot and that he adjusted the thermostat and it would be fine.
At that point, I was in the process of remodeling and hadn't fully moved in and when I moved in, I tried to bake a pizza for my kids but the oven wouldn’t even turn on. I called AHS and they said that I had to use the same contractor. I texted the tech because he didn’t have an office person for me to call to and he said it was the best way to reach him. And then, my dishwasher was being iffy and I texted him to reschedule the Monday appointment because I would like to add that to the service, but I didn’t get a reply. I checked the email from Home Shield and there was nothing in there other than this guy’s cellphone number.
I thought I had canceled the appointment and then without warning, he sent somebody else who ended up calling me from work and I apologized profusely. And I told him that I tried to cancel the appointment and the guy that he used as his replacement laughed and told me that it was not my fault at all. He totally expected that this was what this guy does.
At that point, the original contractor started texting and calling me every day to reschedule, so that made me even more uncomfortable. I didn’t answer him at all but he wouldn’t let it go. So I called AHS several times telling them how uncomfortable this guy was making me. I told them that I didn’t want this guy coming back to my house but each of the operator people that I talked to said that there was no way for them to give me a different contractor. Also, I ended up going to my realtor and asked her how to stop the stove technician.
The stove technician was a huge contrast with the company they sent out and got my refrigerator fixed. They were very professional and were able to order the parts. I had a text with a picture of the tech coming from their company and the time window. And, there was a phone number for me to call an office and to reschedule if I had problems. Also, AHS sent somebody out to look at the microwave and I chose to upgrade it. Though I had to pay a lot, it was a really nice microwave so I was really happy with that.
So I didn’t understand why I’m stuck with that fly-by-night stove technician and I basically just gave up. At some point, my realtor called AHS and they got it switched to a company that was good. I was immediately contacted by that company and then their technician came out. He saw the stove, took it apart and told me that there were so many things that needed to be soldered in the oven and that he was not even sure if those are sold anymore, so it was clearly an item that needed to be replaced. He said that it would take a couple of weeks, but I haven’t heard back about the replacement.

I did a computerized claim with American Home Shield for my washing machine. The tech that came over was great. However, I would like to have somebody we can talk to when submitting a claim, not a machine and for AHS to respond more quickly. The last claim I had with one particular item took about two weeks. And the person that came over to look at the problem left. He then had a report that he had done and completed the job. He told my wife to sign on it or agree on it and then said they would reschedule to go back.
They couldn't come in another week and I couldn't wait any longer, so I went and got the repair done myself. Then AHS said they would not cover anything because it wasn't done by their people. It's frustrating when they didn't do the job and I pay every month for their protection. And if that's not gonna be done, then I need to know. If they tell me right in the beginning, I'm fine with that. But if they come over and then say it's done, and if they don't have honest people working for them, AHS should change them.
Jaime,
I understand your concerns with your most recent American Home Shield experience. Also, I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the repairs that have been completed outside of AHS to resolve the issue.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioner. We were gonna try to do it online initially, but we ended up calling them because we had some questions. The experience was okay and John, the technician, was great. The only downside was the price of the Freon. At $55 a pound, it seemed like it was five times the market value, but we had to buy it through them. Nonetheless, I find having a warranty on our properties very valuable. We have two properties. We have an American Home Shield warranty on one and we have a warranty with a different company on the other one because it came with the house. We don’t use that shower but we really need to have our shower back so I called American Home Shield. The rep, Alice, was very helpful. She heard me out and although we weren’t sure whether it would be covered or not, she sent someone out here right away. I was really amazed because within three hours I had someone very professional, helpful, nice, and informative at my house. However, because the shower pan was all in one piece and there was gonna be construction, AHS doesn't cover it.
I also had a bad experience in the past with AHS over a refrigerator but they have my business and I’m gonna stick with them. My experience was absolutely wonderful even though the outcome didn’t come out the way I hoped it would. We’ve been with them for two years and I can’t imagine moving. They’re the better business. The guys came on time as scheduled and the technician did something. He was outstanding.
But the microwave wasn’t working again, so I called back again. I reopened the ticket and the tech came back and found what the issue was. He ordered the part, came and fixed it. I know that the parts take time to come in and I understand. Still, they were all on time and everything was quick. The microwave is working fine now. I have been having issues trying to create it online, but American Home Shield's representative did great. She assisted me in getting a new policy number since I was using the old number from my policy, and did a good job.
Moreover, the contractor they sent out from Shoreline Appliance Repair was very friendly and professional. My microwave went black and had no power to it. Heat wasn’t blowing out the vents and it sounded like there was some type of a motor running in the unit upstairs. It was like a low windy noise, almost like a fan was running but nothing was happening. There was nothing coming out the duct work and it wasn’t the thermostat. It wasn’t getting warm in here but was actually getting cold. It was down to 63 when I finally got somebody to explain the problem.
I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online, and they instantly sent me a text message saying that Guaranteed Services was the vendor. It also said that they were gonna call me within 24 hours. However, it was a little cold and I really couldn’t take the cold, so I called the vendor and they were so kind to get me in as soon as possible. They came out the same day to see what the matter was and the man went up there. He was up there for a while, and he determined the problem, but if it would shut off, I would’ve had to go into the attic to turn it back on. But that was the best they could do until the part came. They ordered one of the two parts wrong and when they came out, they put the good part in but had to reorder, and then it took another couple of days. But it’s okay for now.
We also had a plumbing problem during the second year, and it turned out that the vendor came out about four times until they got it right. Meanwhile, our downstairs bathroom ceiling got messed up. I let it go for a while so that everything would dry out, but when I called American Home Shield to tell them, nobody ever came out to fix the ceiling because I didn’t have a hole in the ceiling. When our hot water tank from 1972 died, American Home Shield replaced it. They just paid the portion for the new unit and the installation, and then I had to pay the difference between what would bring it up to modern building code because it was a new installation. But overall, I’m very happy with American Home Shield.

I had to submit a claim for my AC twice. The first one, it kept freezing up and losing the Freon, and the compressor on the outside wasn’t running. I had to call American Home Shield and they sent some people out here and one guy wanted to put Freon in it. He told us we didn’t owe anything because someone had come out before. He even showed me in the computer that we didn’t owe anything. Then he left but then he came back and said we owed him 200 and some dollars for the Freon. He and my daughter were going on and on, so I said we'd just give it to him. But my daughter said she'd rather pay American Home Shield if we're paying anyone. Then American Home Shield sent us a letter saying we were supposed to pay for the Freon and it was $200. They said they would take care of it this time but from now on, we have to pay for the Freon. But they still charged us.
First, American Home Shield told me that I had to pay $1,100 for the new unit that they were gonna put in, and then they called back and said I had to pay eight something to the contractor when they did get here. And then the second time, they said that the compressor on the outside was out so I had to pay $550 for that for the Freon as well. I hear different things because a lot of people tell me they have American Home Shield and then they tell me that they don’t have to pay that kind of money for those equipment.
The first contractor that came out, A-US Air Conditioning, was horrible and I didn’t like those people at all. The the two guys that put the equipment in were pretty good and they were nice but the three people that came out before this thing was done weren't. And this problem happened in July and they were the hottest days. The contractor didn’t even come out so I had to get someone else outside of American Home Shield before their contractor even got here to fix that one out. Two people, Troy and Marvin, came and put Freon in the AC because I had a leak and one guy came out at 12 am at night. I’m not having any issue right now but I'm dissatisfied with my experience with American Home Shield.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Our house needs to maintain a certain temperature all of the time, but the furnace would not keep heat in the house correctly and the temperature was dropping 10 degrees. Space heaters weren't keeping on the up and up too. The furnace has been doing that for about two weeks before I filed a claim because I have tried different fixes on it. The claims process online was simple. AHS said they'll get a hold of me within 24 hours and the contractor was here doing the work.
Jim has really great people to work with and they did an excellent job. They found the problem, repaired it, and then saw some issues that might arise in the future. The main board in the computer had gone bad and once he got the furnace to light, he saw that the burners were being funky and had leaks in them. He said that eventually the burners are gonna give out on me soon. It was a safety issue, so he said they're gonna need to fix those, too.

Then it turns out there wasn’t anything wrong with the old dishwasher and it just needed some TLC. It was in the basement and we didn’t use it very often. And he explained how to keep it in working order and it was a good experience.

We have been waiting for about 3 weeks for our refrigerator to be replaced, it was approved and scheduled for delivery today. We had to unload our old refrigerator in order for the new One to be placed. The delivery came, they unboxed it outside before bringing it in; it had a large dent across the side. We unfortunately could not accept the damaged product. It was loaded back on the truck and sent back. So we have NO refrigerator now and groceries from the side freezer and fridge going spoiled. We have been trying for the past few hours trying to get to help on this issue. Each time repeating, then told they are forwarding, then click disconnected. If someone from AHS contacts us it will be appreciated, this is extremely important.

We have had this coverage for almost a year. Tried calling in a service call but the recording said go online for better/prompt service etc. Hung up and went online. Their online system only lets you choose one problem. In my case I needed to choose leaky pipe and well. The system would only let me choose one, so I chose leaky pipe, since both the well and bathroom had a leaky pipe. The plumber would only fix the bathroom because the well was not listed on the service order. The plumber called the warranty company while at our home to get authorization but they said we had to put in a new service request. He left and said he would come back. We called the home warranty company and they said we had to pay ANOTHER $100 deductible!!! They said we should not of let the plumber leave. What are we supposed to do, hold him, hostage until they get their act together?
We had to pay another $100, they sent a different plumbing company. We pay extra for the well coverage but of course they said our problem was not covered. Now we have to pay another $1300 for a repair. I was upset by all these issues and called American Home Shield and wanted to speak to someone that would listen to my frustration and offer some assistance or at least attempt to make me hang up a happy but unfulfilled customer. I couldn't even get that! I was told basically, "It is what it is. Keep the warranty, cancel we really don't care." I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to and was told no. I called back thinking I would get someone else willing to be more helpful, but nope! Basically same conversation. No one there cares if you are happy or not. If I cancel, some other sucker is always willing to take my place as a paying customer. It's a big scam people, don't waste your money on this company.

I got a couple of claims with my air conditioner and the most recent one had to do with the clogged line for the evaporator to dispose of the water from the unit. It took them a couple of times before they could figure out the problem. When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, they don’t want you to speak to a live person. They try to cut down customer service so you go online and make the appointment. That’s company policy and I don’t like that. It’s more cost-effective that way for themselves but it has changed over the years like everything else. I spoke to someone eventually and the rep was very helpful. Some contractors are very efficient and overall, it’s been a good experience with their repair people. The gentleman came at a time prompt and took care of the issue promptly and the repair brought the AC unit back to where it should be.

The shower handle wasn’t working and the water came out scalding hot and I couldn’t adjust the water. I filed a claim through American Home Shield’s recorded message and they sent me back an email telling me to call Budget Heating and Cooling. I then called Budget and scheduled the appointment. Their tech replaced the cartridge inside and he fixed it fine.
Last summer, the summer before that, and the summer before that, I’ve been having to have my freon replaced because American Home Shield doesn’t think that the coil should be replaced. So, they just send out a technician and fills up the Freon every summer but it doesn’t really fix the problem because the freon leaks back out. Now, it’s getting ready to get hot here in St. Louis and I’m gonna call American Home Shield and schedule an appointment to get more freon put in there. So, I don’t have to keep paying the $75 fee every summer plus the fee for the freon. But the air-conditioner needs to be fixed and the technician said that it was an $800 job but he can’t do it as all he’s been sent here to do is replace the freon.

I appreciate American Home Shield for sending out technicians whenever I needed it. I had them do plumbing works on the boiler the last time and it was easy when I put the claim in. I could do it here in my log in details, and then after that I’d book the appointment. I had a text message the following day. And then the technician came as per schedule and he asked me about the system to start with but I didn’t know anything about the system because I just bought the home. So, he was able to get into the attic and see the existing system, and then straight away, he was able to find the fault and then fixed it. So he was good.
It didn’t take a lot of time too. Perhaps it was one of those common issues he faces every day, so he was quick at fixing it. Everything went well. Then I got a feedback request asking if he has done a good job or not. So, the overall experience has been very good. It's definitely worth it to have somebody like AHS because you never know what could go wrong. You can’t scramble at the last minute. I would rather prepare for it by having warranty like AHS.

American Home Shield has been absolutely fabulous. I had two washers that both failed at the same time, and they were real good about getting them taken care of. The only way to fix them was to replace them because some of the parts were not available any longer, so they did that. Submitting a claim was very simple and easy. There was an odd delay in this case only because I had an initial person come out that was literally unqualified and was a very bad operator. AHS didn’t know that but he gave me bad advice on another appliance I had that I was working on with American Home Shield. But once they became aware of that, they took corrective action and they didn’t have another person in my area to come out. They did what's called an outside authorization wherein they paid somebody specifically that's not under their contract to come out and take care of it. It wasn’t their fault but they responded to it well.
Being without a washers was certainly an inconvenience, but we got two new washers. I purchased online from American Home Shield's selection and it was all very smooth. I've had a few claims with them recently and they've done really well with the claims when everything goes well. However, their delay time to answer the phone is oftentimes really bad. But, one of those might have been because of the hurricane down in Florida. Not only were they getting a lot of claims, but they had staffing issues because people were dealing with the hurricane, and I get that.
Another thing that was weird was they wanted me to fax some information into the internal office and I did that. They said they got the fax but they couldn't read it. They could only see that I sent the fax, but they couldn't actually pull up what it says. I'm like, "Then why did you tell me to send it via fax?" Somebody finally gave me an email address that I could scan and email the documents and that worked fine. But I had to go through an Act of Congress to get to that place.
Hello, Ron. Our apologies for the issues with service techs not being knowledgeable enough and for the fax fiasco. Overall, you seem pleased with the outcome and we are thankful that you took the time to tell us about your experience.

I've had two claims for American Home Shield recently. The one with the A/C went great. I was able to get someone out here and that same day the contractor fixed it. But the second claim was horrific. The only problem I had was the first water heater. The contractor said he couldn’t work on it because he doesn't work that brand. So I question why AHS even sent someone out who can't work on it.
And when they finally sent another contractor out it was two days after. He was great and helped me a lot. The water heater needed to be replaced so the first guy hadn't even really looked at it and realize it was shot. He could have had it replaced. Since it had to be replaced, if I went through the American Home Shield process to replace it, I would have waited another day or longer without hot water. I would have been on my fourth day so I chose to pay for it myself. I paid $1,100 out of my own pocket and now I'm still waiting to hear back from someone to see how they will pay out.
The one thing that was very frustrating was when I had an issue a couple of years ago. Most of the time it isn't timely and it's not reasonable to wait for what their timeframe is. I was in Las Vegas two summers ago. I had to have an A/C unit replaced. The people they assigned me said it will be 10 days to get someone out because it was such a busy time of the year. We can't live in 1150 degrees without an A/C unit for 10 days. You wait on hold for a couple of hours at a time with them to try to get someone to help and they tell you they apologize but it's their busy time of year so I just dread the fact if my A/C unit goes out in the summer. But my experience with AHS has been generally good.

There was a small leak in my main water line. I caught it early in the morning, got it all cleared out and filed a claim online with American Home Shield which was pretty simple and straightforward. They assigned one plumber group that doesn’t service my area more than twice a week. So, I called in and talked to the AHS customer service representative and they found a different plumber that could get out here pretty quickly. The contractor was very personable and professional. He came out, found the issue, ran back to the shop because he was swinging by from another call, got a couple of parts that he needed and came back and fixed the leak quickly.
I’ve dealt with AHS a number of times since I purchased my home a year ago and the first couple of go-arounds with them were not so great with really long hold times on the phone trying to find contractors. I live in a big small town in the middle of Northwest Oklahoma and there are just not as many contractors out here for repair that AHS works with right now. But they have drastically improved their customer service and response times with this last iteration, so I was very pleased.

I had a leak in my foundation and when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I didn't have to keep calling or anything like that. They sent out people and they checked it out. They gave me how much they would pay based on that amount and I also had to work with my home insurance with them for that because it was a costly item but they took care of the problem. When I called them, they were helpful. They got me in touch with the company that they were contracting out to do the service and they emailed me that information. I worked with the contractor who let me know their availability was and the contractor was out here after a couple of days. So, it was in a timely manner.
The contractor was very helpful, knowledgeable and let me know that it was a big problem and beyond what they cover. It was entirely because of the enormous amount of work that needed to be done but I appreciated their help because they covered a portion of that, which I understood. The job was completed. I've talked to people who haven't had great experiences with American Home Shield, but I can't complain. I had a stove that went out and they replaced it. Toilets were leaking out and they fixed it, so I'm quite pleased and it's definitely worth the amount of money that I spent or that I pay for that. Being a single person, I can’t just go out or if items like this come about, it would be a difficult thing for me to pay for them. But having their service has really helped me a lot as a single person. I’ve been with them for three years and I would recommend them.

The AHS representatives were good too except that I stay on the line for anywhere between an hour to almost two hours to wait for someone to pick up the phone. I was on for hours and hours and it was awful. And it wasn't even good in the middle of the night. It's kind of disheartening to even try to talk to them and especially at the beginning because I just moved and I just got my contract that came with the house I bought. Although it has only been a problem once or twice, AHS sends technicians that I wouldn’t choose based on the ratings. Plus, they don’t ask much ahead of time so sometimes they'd send a technician that doesn’t even know how to work on the particular brands of appliances that we have, which are more high-end. Once, we had a dishwasher issue that wasn’t resolved and took forever. Then we had one company that tried to fix a built-in refrigerator without the knowledge of how to fix it, and we ended up having to replace the entire unit.
Recently our oven's electronic panel, where all the electronic dials are, was not working so we called AHS. The contractor came out here in two days. He was professional enough, although he wasn’t dressed as professionally as we expected him to be, and he was quick to diagnose the issue. Then he left and ordered the part, which came in about a week. The oven is working perfectly well now. When things break, having somebody come and fix it for the price that we pay, is very valuable. Without AHS, it would be a huge out-of-pocket expense if one of our things break. Moreover, they have gotten better and we've been happier with them now than we had been in the past.

We had paid for the HVAC visit and the vendor said that he would transfer the service call to a plumber who came out, diagnosed the problem, found the leak in the wall, cut holes in the wall and patched it, and patched the plumbing. And then he contacted a drywall company that came out and did the drywall repair. I was impressed with the plumber. The HVAC guy and the drywall repair folks were good as well. There is a $75 fee that’s paid when the vendor comes out or when he completes his work. That was paid to the HVAC contractor and he allegedly transferred the charge or the claim to the plumber and said that there would not be an additional $75 charge for a second vendor. But I may have received a bill from American Home Shield for that second vendor.
