The air conditioner compressor went out. I went online and told AHS that I had a problem. Then they called me back and their reps did really well. They contacted me the first time with a contractor that I didn’t reckon to have, out of Camden, a city about 35 miles from where I live and I didn’t recognize their name. Then they hooked me up with another guy that has a little reputation and that was the young man, out of Fine Block, who came out.
He had his own business and he was really good. It also looked like he knew what he was doing. He drove down here and checked my compressor to be sure what exactly was going on, then he got the model number stuff out of it, called it in, and got the one order that I needed. In a few days, he headed back here and installed it. He was very friendly and he had a helper with them. They took the compressor apart, put it back together, and fixed it. They were very professional and I couldn't ask for anyone better. I would recommend that contractor and if I had another problem, I'd want to have him sent back out to my place. I would also recommend AHS.

We had a side-by-side refrigerator with a bottom freezer and we filed a claim for it originally in the first of January. There would be water leaking out at the bottom part of the freezer pretty frequently and potentially ruining our floors. We had American Home Shield send one plumber. He came out but it wasn’t repaired. We called and trying to get through to someone was horrible. We were on hold for two to three hours. They finally sent a different company, supervisor-type person, and he came out twice. But the problem then became that the freezer that was frost-free supposedly of this very expensive refrigerator started freezing up. All of our food was ruined. It was completely frozen solid for three months.
We called and called but we could never get through so I went on American Home Shield’s Facebook page and made a comment. I instantly received a notification from their media representative, Daryl. Apparently, the way to get through American Home Shield is to say something not good about them on their page on Facebook because then action happens. After I made the connection on Facebook, Daryl called me. I also gave him my husband’s number. We went around about a month back and forth. They decided after investigating that they couldn’t repair it. And as per the agreement, if they can't repair it, they replace it. We received a replacement refrigerator this week but it took five months.
Paula,
I understand your concerns about the delay in service that you had experienced to have the refrigerator repaired. It is good to hear that another American Home Shield representative has resolved your claim and replaced the unit. I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the experience.

I had a garage door opening problem and American Home Shield sent a contractor. He came, looked at the problem, and fixed it. He changed a capacitor and it seems okay so far. Overall, it was a good experience. At least, everything with American Home Shield is satisfactory and I would recommend them.
Hi Hardik,
We enjoyed reading the feedback that you have provided us at American Home Shield. We are glad the technician was able to repair the garage door opener by replacing the capacitator.

The heater wasn’t blowing out hot air so I called American Home Shield and filed a claim on it. They took care of it real quick. They said that they would have somebody out here and within a couple of days, the guy came out, inspected and said we needed a new heater. He said they would go ahead and tell American Home Shield. Within a couple of weeks, they set up an appointment to bring out the new unit. They had a crane scheduled but it turned out they sent out the wrong unit. It was too big for my roof. I asked them how they could make a mistake when they had one of their guys here. They said they would come out and do it, and within a couple of days, they had the new unit put in. The the serviceman said that everything was fine but the next morning, the heater didn't come on.
I called up and made an appointment for them to come back out. They said 8:00 to 12:00, which was reasonable, and I was waiting for them to come but at 12:30 I called up to ask what was going on. They had not heard from their guy and they tried to get a hold of him. Then they called up and said he had car problems. I sat here for four hours waiting for somebody to show up. Somebody could have called me and said they were not coming that day. The serviceman ended up coming out two days later. They had forgotten to flip the switch on the unit. That was all that was wrong.
Everything worked fine then. But I called the company and said, “I think you should reimburse me something.” They said they can't reimburse me anything and I asked why not. The person said that if I went on Yelp and gave them a good review, they would give me $40. But I was not giving them a good review. So there was a little more issue with the contractor but I had no problem with American Home Shield. I've actually even talked to some friends of mine that had moved into a new home and told them to go ahead and get it. It's worth it.

American Home Shield's price was better than what I had before. I usually call them up to file claims and I've also gone through the computer once. I had pleasant interactions with their reps. They take the information and let me know that they’ll contact the contracting company who would be calling me back. The contractors that come out usually solve the problem. One of the last big jobs was when the electrician came here. I was having trouble with things cutting on and off and not being able to turn on my ceiling lights. The electricity was not working properly and the switch on the box kept flipping. I have a 93-year-old father and our fireplace wasn’t working. It was a big mess and he was cold. The electrician came back in two days. They even had to go up in the attic and they hung in there until they got it straight. I was very impressed with them and since the repair, everything is fine. They solved the problem and did a very good job.
AHS is speedy. You call in, let them know what the problem is, and they set you up with a company right away. And then the company calls you and schedules a time that’s good for you, and then set up an appointment. I looked over the contract to see what was covered, and I was really impressed about all the things that American Home Shield would cover if something went wrong, how efficient they are, and how the representatives they send out from the other companies usually do a very good job. And they're very friendly and professional. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield and I would recommend them.
Hi Vicki,
We would like to thank you for the positive feedback regarding your most recent experience to have the electric repaired with American Home Shield. It is our job to send prompt and professional technicians that can serve you. We hope that you continue to have a great experience!

Our washer stopped working and we had to get it repaired. After submitting our claim online with American Home Shield, the appointment was scheduled. The contractors from Sears came and I had a good experience with them. They were fantastic. They were also very upfront and kept us in the loop of everything that was going on. The repair took about three weeks because there was more than one thing wrong when they got into it. Then, they had to order parts and come back. It was kind of sketchy there until the washer got fixed. But other than that, I had all the confidence in the world in how they handled my claim. I'm glad I bought this warranty.
I'm glad to know that we were able to repair your washer Ray. We appreciate you taking time to share your experience. Have an amazing weekend.

We've been very happy with American Home Shield. They've always been prompt, quick, eager to take care of any issues that we've had and take care of everything in a timely manner. Recently we had a pipe leak coming from upstairs going down to the basement. We're not sure really what it was from, if it was from a sink, toilet or a shower. We submitted our claim on the AHS online app and they called us and scheduled to come out and take care of it.
We had a great communication with the contractors who came out here. They took care of everything and explained everything that they were doing. They came in and did the look and tried a couple of things and they finally found it. The people who were working on our house before it was sold were putting in some paneling in the bathroom and they put a nail through a pipe. The contractors were able to ID that and get that taken care of for us. It's completely been fixed. We don't have to worry about walking down slipping in a puddle of water in the basement or anything or have to keep an eye on which shower you can use.

We weren’t quite pleased with American Home Shield’s service when we had them six years ago at my home in Rockwall but this time, I was really pleased and it was absolutely exceptional. My garage door opener was not functioning properly. It was jumping around and sometimes, it wouldn’t open at all. I got AHS over the phone this time and they got the information and told me what to expect and what business would be coming out and when they would be contacting me. Everything was like clockwork. The representative came out and took care of the problem right away. He was very polite, courteous and did a good job.

I had a problem with a mini-split wall-mounted heater air-conditioner. I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody over. I had several problems with it and they just gave me a new one this time around so I was very pleased with the service and the result. We’ve used AHS as many as four times a year on various things and generally, my interaction with the contractors has been pretty good. I only had one disappointing experience. It happened to be the garage door opener. The guy who came out didn’t do a lot and he just got the thing working again. And then I had another problem with it and they sent somebody else out because I said I don’t want to see this guy again.
The guy they sent out was really good. He was the systems guy and he did the whole thing. He went and lubricated the springs on that door and so I was very pleased with the work that he had done. I had another problem where the train came off and they sent the same guy. Once again, he performed superbly. However, I just stopped American Home Shield's service. I found a substantially better deal with Choice where each call was going to be less than half of what I was paying to American Home Shield and the rate was significantly cheaper as well. But I'd recommend American Home Shield. They were fine until I found something better.

We bought a house and the fan up in the attic stopped working, so I called it in and American Home Shield’s reps were awesome. They scheduled the repair, then the electrician called to tell me that he was coming. He was very professional. He did the work and told me what he was gonna do next. He said that electricity was working on the fan, so repair needs to be done by someone who can do roofing, which is not them. He submitted that information back to American Home Shield and within two days, they called to tell us that they don't do roofing stuff but that they will send me a check and I can get it done with. I'm happy. I should be getting it done next week. I’d tell a friend to get AHS.

Out of the three claims that I've had with American Home Shield, the first claim was a pleasurable experience. This claim was to repair the air conditioning system that was supposed to have been repaired last year. When submitting claims, I try to do it over the phone with the rep, but every time I call, I usually get some uneducated person in the state of Georgia who wants to do absolutely nothing for anybody. And they sound like they show racial bias into everything. They need to have a call center with people that are willing to work with customers and they need to have more than two people working at a time so you're not stuck on hold trying to get a hold of a representative for an hour and a half.
But the contractors have been informative. And a few of the contractors that I've had have said about the lack of quality American Home Shield likes to promote and have and deal with the customers. In my most recent experience, the contractor also seemed to actually know what they were doing, and was very pleasurable to work with. It seems like American Home Shield is trying to make a change of things and turn things about. So, as long as they can do right and they're actually making strides to go in the right direction, I have no problems staying with them and possibly even referring them to other people. But if that one-time experience that I have with them is going to be like what I've had in the past, there are other alternative companies out there.

The heater wasn’t coming on and submitting the claim to American Home Shield was easy enough. I’ve tried to do phone claims but I couldn't get through them so usually, it’s done online. But I called this time and I got through to someone, and the rep took care of me. Also, I love the contractor that was sent out and the service was great. But there was one claim before where it took the contractor, not the one I had this time, five trips and they still screwed up. The heater has been a chronic problem and it’s been a pain for the last year but now, I’m pretty sure everything is fixed. It's in a vacation home and there's nothing like going out there in the cold of January at 30 degrees and the heater doesn’t come on. I’ve had home warranties now going close to 16 years and I’ve had other companies, and I’m very happy with American Home Shield. So far, everything is good and I’d recommend them.

It was easy to submit an AC claim online with American Home Shield. Moreover, the website was very user-friendly. The technician from Curry Mechanical was nice when he came out. However, it was a little bit frustrating having to pay $75 twice for the AC when the first time they came they couldn't find what was the matter with it. A month later, I called back and they were very helpful at AHS. I said that the AC was not working right. Someone came and they said it was missing a part and they were able to fix it. It’s a great program. But the contractor could’ve been honest that they couldn’t find the issue the first time around.

I’ve been with AHS for a long time and mostly they do pretty well. This last experience I got a stopped-up toilet and there was a problem in my availability. I called them to tell them that I couldn’t be there and we would have to reschedule it. I didn’t hear from them until the next morning they showed up at my front door and said that they were there and I wasn’t home. So I called them and they were pretty unpleasant about it. Then American Home Shield sent a second plumber, one that we had had before and it went fine. That plumber was excellent. He showed up on time and he did what he said. Generally, I’m pretty satisfied with them. They’re professional, typically show up on time and do what they’re supposed to do.

Our heating system stopped working sporadically. Once during wintertime, I had it set it on 69 but it was reading 64 degrees, so I played with the thermostat. I turned it off and on. At one point, I turned it off for about half an hour and when I turned it back on, it seemed to be working again. Then, twice now in the warm weather when it’s on cool mode, my daughter had set it on a 76 and she went to bed, it was reading 76. Everything was working fine but she woke up and it was 81.
I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield and everybody was helpful and everything was done very timely. When the first contractor came out, I was out of town, so I wasn’t able to speak with him and he didn’t spend a lot of time here at all. He didn’t even go up in the attic and he was only here for about 15 minutes. He told my daughter that he thought it was the reversing valve, but he didn’t think that it would be approved because by the time he got there, it started working again. I was trying to find out what led him to think that because AHS was willing to approve that, but it was gonna end up costing me money because I had to pay for all the freon they had to put back in.
I was trying to speak to the tech to find out exactly how valid his diagnosis was but I wasn’t able to speak with him, so I requested a second opinion. The second guy that came out was wonderful. He was very explanatory. It turned out that one of the wires was loose. So, every time the unit kicked off and on, it shakes a little bit and that was causing it to not complete the circuit. My experience with AHS went well. I like the tech that came out and everything on American Home Shield was handled great.

American Home Shield has been fine, but their vendors are not. They should never use one particular vendor. It was a nightmare. We had a leak in the house so I called AHS and then, they called a plumber and the plumber told me that I need a leak detection company. So they sent out Myers Plumbing but they told me that they don’t have the ability for leak detection.
Eventually, they were able to get a leak detection company who came out and found the leak and he went to fix the problem. However, he was deceptive in the process. He doubled the price but in claims, we were charged three times and then he tried to hide the part that he tried to put everything back together without the part needed and that caused our water heater to have a terrible leak. Now I have ceiling damage and possible black mold. It turned into a big, ugly mess. American Home Shield was not much of a help. They said that was between me and the vendor. The only thing they can do is not use them again and I will make sure that that company doesn’t come back to my home. I will just find somebody else. Eventually, it was repaired by another plumber. All in all, if friends would ask about American Home Shield, I would tell them they’re good. But I will tell them not to get Myers to come to their homes as well.

The technician that came out looked at the dryer, fixed the problem plus did some preventive stuff and replaced every moving part underneath the drum of the dryer. Since then, the dryer has been working great. Having a warranty on your property is absolutely the best thing. When the boiler needed to be fixed during the winter, the guy actually came on a Saturday because it was cold and he did everything in his power to make sure we had heat. They fixed our air conditioner, too. The only thing that has changed was how much I have to pay upfront for each job. The pool would not prime and the pool company that American Home Shield sent out was really good. Even though they haven’t fixed the problem yet, they are responsive and extremely polite. They called and came right away, which does not always happen. This particular service call was one of my better calls for sure. The technician really spends time when he comes out here and I feel like he will figure the issue out. It’s probably more than just one thing that’s wrong with it so he’s trying to move to those steps. And they have the ability to place the recall.
The technician replaced the part right away and when it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do, they came out that same day and worked on it. The technician wouldn’t replace a part unless it was necessary so he’ll have to come back out and reevaluate the new pump. The system has multiple parts and he only did the pump. Even though the pump is still not working, I’m pretty confident based on how the pool company has been responding that they’ll be very prompt coming out Monday as well. Every contractor that American Home Shield uses is different so sometimes our experience is really good and then sometimes, it's difficult. Our air conditioner wasn't turning on and there's something wrong with the electrical too. First, American Home Shield sent the air conditioner people out but they couldn't figure it out. So, they referred us to electricians. Then the electrician was able to figure it out. He was not a friendly version though and I wouldn't recommend him to a friend but he got the job done. He didn't want to make eye contact with me which was weird. He didn't seem like he wanted to speak to me. It was awkward. It seem to be because I'm a woman and he was of Arab descent. He didn't even knock on the door. He just waited and let my dog bark. Since the repair, we ran the air conditioner a couple of times when we had a little heat wave and it struggled to get the temperature lower than 75 but it eventually made it in about four hours.
Also, one time, we called for our hot water heater because it sounded like there was somebody in there throwing baseballs. We had two people come out, one of which said that it needed to be replaced but then the AHS people said no and that it still makes hot water, so we were fine. Great. We're gonna wait until it explodes and cause a major water damage or leaves us without hot water for a week then AHS is gonna fix it. They're hoping that they'll get beyond this year and I'll have to pay another premium, then they can maybe do it.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield on my heat and air conditioning unit. I called them and they got a company come out and check it. The tech checked it, and he said it needed a part. However, he had trouble signing the part or the part cost too much. They came back and told me that I would have to pay $1000. I said that it was a lot and asked if they didn’t cover all that. He said they didn’t. Finally, when I got in touch with Guarantee, the people that were supposed to do the unit, they told me that it was a new unit. I said I did not know that it was a new unit. The rep also said that it was a whole new unit and I was paying them the money because they got to update it. It ended up being $1500 and they came out with a brand-new unit and put it in. However, it didn’t work for a while so I asked what was wrong. I called them, they came back, checked it, and they fixed it. And, overall, it turned out to be really good.
I chewed them out because I didn’t understand it and then when I found out what was going on, I called them and apologized. I thanked them for the unit and I told them that it was a lack of communication and I didn’t know what they were talking about. The interaction I had with the technician that came out was really good, although the only thing about it was the time limit. One woman said that they got to be there by 10 or 12 and that he would call before he came. He called, but he didn’t show up until about three or four. Then another time, they said that he was going to show up about three or four and he showed up about 10 or 11.

I called in a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning issue, and then I also submitted a claim online for the water heater three weeks ago. The contractor, Lambasio Inc, did both of them. I’ve dealt with Lambasio for years and they’re a great company. The air conditioner wasn’t keeping up and Lambasio did several things and got it up to speed. But we just haven’t had any real hot weather yet to really know, so they left it open. I was supposed to let them know if we’re having any issues with it. But they did what they could and so far, it has been running okay.
I think very highly of Lambasio. They have always been very prompt and I’m very happy with them. I would have called them even if I didn’t have American Home Shield. But American Home Shield has gotten a little easier to deal with. It used to be cumbersome, especially if I tried to do it by phone. But it's all automated now and it works pretty well.

I've been with AHS since August of last year and I've had a good experience. I've submitted my claims over the phone, but getting through to customer service has been a challenge. One time, there was a 20-minute wait and I couldn’t wait any longer, so I hung up and called back the next day. 20 minutes was just too long. I’m going to try the online next time. Their reps are very friendly, cooperative, efficient in taking the claim, supportive, and pleasant. I talked to several of them and never had any problem once I got someone on the phone. Once I’ve put in the claim, the technician showed up within one to three business days. I requested them to give me a call 30 minutes ahead of time and they did. They were professional and got the job done in an efficient manner.
My first claim was for a refrigerator. The service technician came in, assessed that we needed a part replaced, ordered the part, came back, and replaced it. For the second claim, we had a plumbing problem at our home. We had two faucets that needed to be repaired. AHS sent STL Plumbing and STL Plumbing sent Lonnie the plumber. He had told me he had 25 years of experience, came in, assessed the situation, took out, and ordered the two faucets. One for the bathroom and one for the kitchen. He did an excellent job.
Then, I thought another faucet was leaking and I called AHS. Then I figured out that it wasn’t leaking so I called American Home Shield and said that I’m gonna cancel the order. The next thing I knew, on that same morning, Lonnie shows up at the door and rushed us in. He goes into the bathroom where I had canceled the order and replaced a flow valve for the tub because the other one had it so that the flow was very strong and the water was pumping up, which made me think there might have been a leak. Subsequently, on the way out, he had me sign something but I didn’t understand what that was about. After he left, I realized, that he came for the order that I canceled, not for the other one.
There was some confusion about why he came when I had canceled the order. Didn’t American Home Shield relay the information to that company? I called American Home Shield to report the problem because it just seemed like he was coming back to collect another $100 for service that I did not need. I also sent an email to STL Plumbing about the situation, but I haven’t heard anything from STL Plumbing. To me, the order that I canceled shouldn’t have gone out to STL and so they shouldn’t have shown up at all. I received a notice to pay $100 for the service call, which was part of my plan to American Home Shield. I’m going to do that and I hope that’s the end of the whole situation. Overall, I’ve been pleased with the service.

Several months ago, there was a Facebook post about American Home Shield and it was positive. It was put out on their website and people made terrible comments about the service. But we've never had any problems with American Home Shield. They have always been able to come out and get things taken care of. I definitely like American Home Shield and I'm very thankful that we've had it.
We had a heating issue in January and we had to get our heating unit replaced. We had come home from an out-of-town and we smelled something electrical smoky and burning. We realized it was our heater that was making a noise so we turned it off. That was about 9 o’clock at night. I went over to the computer, submitted the claim. The next day, the company called and said they were gonna be out. This was in the coldest part of the winter down here in Houston so the guy came out right away. So submitting the claim was great.
The contractor was great too. They tried to replace a part on the unit but it was very old and probably original to the house from 1989 so they couldn’t get the part. Finally, they said that they would ask American Home Shield if they could just replace it. So they were very nice and friendly. They kept us up-to-date on what was going on although it took a while because they were trying do one thing and it didn’t work. But we finally got it going. In fact, our electric bill dropped tremendously, like $40 for one month and we were thrilled that the unit seemed to be working fine right now.
Also, in the process of getting our heating unit replaced, the man somehow did something to the compressor of the AC unit outside and he said that it was low on Freon. He said that he could put some in but if it leaks out, we were gonna have to replace the unit. They actually put the call in to American Home Shield for us to get a new air conditioning unit and we ended up getting a new heating unit and a new air conditioning unit. We'd recommended American Home Shield and our son now has them too. We told him that it was a good idea to do that.
Linda,
I would like to thank you for being a customer of American Home Shield and leaving such good feedback about your most recent experience to have your heating and air conditioner system replaced. I hope that we continue to service your issues quickly and provide you with a great experience!

American Home Shield repaired our air-conditioning system. We just moved in our house about four months ago and once the weather started to get a little bit warmer, we turned on the AC. We noticed the issue around early February. And it turned out that the compressor was not properly functioning. So, the air was blowing but it wasn’t getting cold. Home Shield replaced the compressor and everything is working fine now.
I submitted my request online and it took me about a minute, and they called me back the same day and asked me what was going on. I gave them the description, and they scheduled an appointment for later that week for somebody to come out. The guy came out on the day and time that they said he would be here. He diagnosed the problem and we had to wait about a week for parts to come in, and then they installed it. The guy who did the work was very nice and seem to know what he was talking about. I have a brother who does air-conditioning for a living as well, so I grilled the guy through some of the questions that my brother told me to ask and the guy answered every question and was very cordial with me.
We have several people living in the house so it heats up quickly. So, we asked them to definitely keep the house cooler for us. And since the repair, the house is cooler so we’re quite happy. The only thing is that I had to pay an additional $300 out of pocket for the Freon type that the guy had to put in because Home Shield only covers a small amount. They should cover everything, which was what I thought I am paying for. Other than that, I would highly recommend American Home Shield, especially when you move into a new house and you don’t know the history of it.

We have an eight-month old in the house, and I can tell them that and they can get someone out quicker 'cause it is a sensitive situation. We've had the techs out twice, and the company that AHS used the second time was much more professional than the one that we used the first time. So, we appreciated that. I needed to get approval if the insurance would cover for him like going into the walls to fix the problem and they were denied. So the heat is still broken. But the contractors have been very pleasant. They’re both very polite, friendly and informative. It was a good experience.

I had a couple of claims with American Home Shield and all of them had a bad experience. The most recent appliance call to American Home Shield was for an old dryer that failed. The tech was called and they came out, looked at it and then spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get parts for this 30-year old dryer. He came to a conclusion that he couldn’t. And so, American Home Shield replaced it with a new dryer. And when the guy delivered the dryer, he brought the dryer out. In order to put it in its tight fit, he has to pull the washer out then put the dryer in and then put the washer back. The installer said he can’t touch the washing machine so they just left the dryer there. My property manager actually installed the dryer and it was kind of a stupid work.
Also, the most recent call I had was for my property in Michigan. There was a leaking valve so I placed a call to AHS and Best Plumbing came out, looked at it and told me that they can fix the valve. And before they fixed it, they said I had all kinds of house piping that needs to be replaced. They also told me that it was incompatible with our house piping and it’s gonna cost $2,000. I told them to hang on and I had my property manager send her licensed plumber out to take a look at the piping. Her licensed plumber said the piping was fine and need not be replaced. The plumber went ahead and fixed the valve and I just took care of it from my property manager. I paid $100 for the service call for the AHS plumber that came out. And while that AHS plumber was out there, he talked to my tenants and told my tenants that the plumbing is not safe and that it needs to be replaced immediately.
I live in California but my property is in Michigan. I got unhappy tenants over nothing but a non-existent problem. So, my property manager’s plumber talked to the tenants, told them everything was fine and in good shape, and fixed the problem. Then, I had another problem with the property in Iowa where the dryer won’t stop working. The American Home Shield tech came out and allegedly did something to the dryer’s timer and then discovered that it didn’t fix the problem. So, they sent an electrician to look at the wiring. Whatever it was, they fixed it. Then, I got bills for two service calls. I paid for the fees for the tech that looked at the dryer control and then the other for the electric that looked at the breaker.
In total, I have four properties and I pay over $2,000 in coverage. I don’t think it’s worth it and I’m gonna let my coverage lapse on my property in Michigan when it expires in July. I’m just gonna let all four of my policies lapse because it looks to me like it’s just a bait and switch with American Home Shield. If a problem happened one time, I might have called AHS to send a different guy. But it is a pattern with American Home Shield. I don’t trust them and I don’t think I would have gotten an honest second opinion.
Daniel,
I understand your concerns with American Home Shield due to several service requests that have gone unfulfilled. I would be glad to speak with you in an effort to resolve your experience.

I did a claim online with American Home Shield for someone to come fix my hot water tank, but I didn’t like the guy they sent out. He tried to charge me to the extreme and I knew it didn't cost that much for new piping. I also don't like anybody coming in here and they feel that they can take advantage of me because I’m a woman. He was trying to charge me a lot. He said that they only pay for the replacement and the removing, and he was trying to charge $1,000 for some pipes. He said that he gotta pull a permit and then, I would still have to pay the $1,000 out of my pocket, and I didn't like that. American Home Shield told me I can go out on my own, so I did it. I paid for it to get it done and I'm waiting for the guy to give me my receipt so I can send it in to them.
One time in the past, I called a company out for my furnace and I kept telling them that something was wrong with the wires coming loose. I told them I was having difficulty with the motor-like thing that spins and that it keeps getting stuck, and sometimes I had to come down. I kept saying that something didn’t seem right and they didn't do anything but put the wires and sat there for a minute and left. The tech said it was just wires that came loose. He plugged them back up, sat there for a minute, and then left. So, that was a waste of $75 because that didn't get fixed.
American Home Shield is wonderful, and the claim and everything else is fine now. But I don't like when I call and certain people come out and they try to charge me. Their customer service was fine. When I called and talked to them, they totally understood. The lady addressed me and said to not do the submission of the claim online and that a call would be better. I recommend American Home Shield to a couple of people. I recommended my sister to them, although we were supposed to get a $25 gift card from Amazon, we never received it. I also told my car insurance person that American Home Shield is really good.
It means the world that you would take time from your schedule to post your experience with AHS. We look forward to assisting your warranty needs Barbara. Have an amazing weekend!

There was a leak in one of the upper areas and I told my renter, “I'll take care of it, and you can do whatever you need to do.” She made the claim to American Home Shield. They had to go in, take a part of the sheetrock out, and repair it. It was taken care of. Also, I've had some work done on the pool pump that was reasonably well-done. They’ve done what they needed to do and then informed the warranty company what needed to be done. Most of the time, it has been fairly painless as far as getting things done.
But more than a year ago, I had a significant experience in a negative way when I had a water heater replaced. The water heater went out and I asked for them to come in and look at it. They did and they said it needed to be replaced but that they could not pay for the replacement because there were additional code upgrades that had to be done which was not covered by the warranty. So, I had about a $1,000 bill that I had to take care of. I tried to dispute that and I called but I got the same answer that they couldn't take care of it. The codes have changed and they had to do other things to it so it wasn't a replacement item, it was a new item. I was very displeased with the warranty company.
Also, I notice that there are raises in the premiums on a somewhat consistent basis which is true with any company that has to do with the rising cost of materials. That’s one of the things that I don’t have any control over, so I just keep doing it. I still have my warranty but I certainly could see me changing and it still may be something that I'll do in the future.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a problem with the pool. However, the problem was when I purchased the home warranty, I asked questions but I didn’t get the breakdown until after I had the contract. I was told that everything was covered from the filter to the ground and anything underground or in the pool wasn’t covered. When I moved in, the filter, the pump wasn’t working in the pool and there was a cleaning system.
Right away, I had a $500 bill from the warranty company on that because it wasn’t covered. Once I got in and called American Home Shield, they denied the claim and I was able to look at the full breakdown of the contact and they had that in there. I was really unhappy with the fact that when I was told prior to purchasing the warranty, that anything in line with the filter to the ground was covered, but I didn’t know it had a cleaning system.
I also had a plumbing problem that I was denied on. It was outside of the house but it was a leak on the main water valve. They came in and told me that they denied it then I went back and had them give me an estimate on what it will cost to fix it. They gave me an estimate. I was gonna pay the plumber to do the job but in the meantime, I called somebody else out and he told me that it wasn’t bad and that he wasn’t gonna replace it. He charged me half the money and fixed it. He told me that the warranty company probably should have covered it but they didn’t. They were brutal and were denying me on a dishwasher telling me it was pre-existing, although it wasn’t. It was crazy and there was nothing we can do about it.
The pool guy was cool and he was great. I like him, but I was denied because there’s something in the print and we’ve had two people come to the house for a dishwasher. The one guy came back and then the second time he came back, he told us that they were not gonna be able to fix it and they were probably gonna replace it for us. I called back because I heard nothing a week later and American Home Shield said that I was denied. The technician told them that it was damaged due to abuse, when he told us in the home that it was probably gonna get replaced because he didn’t seem like he can repair it.
There was no damage. They sent another guy out who said that they can fix anything and that anything can be fixed. He also said that he’ll get back to us in a couple of days. I called back again a week later and he told American Home Shield that it was a pre-existing problem. These guys are in the pocket of the home warranty people and their business relies solely on home warranty companies.
I’m not really happy with their customer service and sometimes they’re rude. It hasn’t been a good experience and we’re not gonna renew it at the end of the year. I would tell my friends to take their money and put it aside than spend it on a home warranty. When they have a problem, call out a technician that’s not gonna charge them twice as much as their people are charging them from the home warranty company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

She got right on and said she'll have somebody out first thing in the morning because it was about 11 o'clock at night when I called. And sure enough, I got a call at 7:02.
I was at work and my wife was home when Hardy Plumbing came over. She was real pleased with the gentleman they sent out. She said he got right in there and got the problem squared away and double-checked the other bathroom to make sure we weren't having problems in that one. She said everything was fine. My problem started on February 20 when my heat went out. My furnace was emitting a burning smell that was coming through my vent. And the smell was toxic because I couldn't leave the windows closed when that smell was emitted through the house. The temperature was already low. It was close to freezing and so I have to open my windows.
I called American Home Shield and posted a service call. The contractors came out and fixed the furnace. However, the heat went out again. In the past, American Home Shield had told me that in case I have a problem with an existing service request, I just have to call the technician back. So, I placed a second call. The technician came back immediately and fixed the heater again. They were good with their response time. The heater went off again the third and fourth time and during the fourth time that I called the technician, I got no response from them at all. And so, I called American Home Shield and explained to them what happened. I asked them if I could request a different company to come out because True Tech Heating, the contract company, had already been out three times and each time, the heater continued to go off.
American Home Shield agreed to send a different company, Sifill and Son, this time. Their first visit was on March 12. They diagnosed the furnace and they said that a high-volume switch needed to be replaced. Several hours later, the furnace stopped working again so I called Sifill and Son back. The technician came back and this time, he couldn't find anything wrong but he said that the computer panel had some dark spots on it. So, he was going to replace that. He had to order the computer panel so I waited for him to return. When he did, he replaced the computer panel. After a few hours, the fire smell started emitting through the house again. The furnace started making some noise and then it shut down. And so I placed another call to the technician. He told me that he would have to have me rescheduled so I waited but didn't hear from him.
I called American Home Shield back and told them that the technician was supposed to return but he didn't. At that point, American Home Shield told me that I should not have called the technician. Instead, I should have called them because they needed a record of everything that had transpired. I told them that the only reason I did that was that that was what I was told to do in the past. So from that point on, I went directly to American Home Shield.
Sifill and Son had already came out three times and each time, the furnace went out again. On the fourth time, the technician replaced a limit switch which he had to order again. After which, the system went down again and the smell of fire still emitted through my house. This is a gas furnace and I'm scared because it is winter time and I don't have any heat. I'm forced to use space heaters. Sifill and Son came out for the fifth and sixth time. On the sixth time, they sent out their senior technician. He came in and within 15 minutes, he was gone. He left my house before I could even talk to him. I had to run outside to talk to him and find out what happened. He told me that he had to replace a capacitor. It did fix the issue for two hours.
I called American Home Shield back and explained to the rep what happened. It was the ninth service call I've already had from two different companies. The rep asked me if I wanted them to send the technician out again. I told the rep that my issue needed to be escalated to a supervisor as I was already tired. She escalated to a supervisor named Stephanie and that I should receive a call from her but I never did. Prior to me expecting a call from Stephanie, I had asked for this entire claim to be escalated to a supervisor and I never got a call from that supervisor either.
I told the American Home Shield rep that I'm going to write their President a letter because this had to stop. I also told her that it is spring now and I've been waiting since February the 20th. If I let this go, I'm going to have to revisit this in the fall and I'm going to have to start all over again with the same issue. I don’t have any heat and I'm scared with this smell of fire being emitted through my house. A customer should never be at the mercy of a contract company to say that a part had to be replaced or that there was nothing else they could do especially when I have had so many service calls for the same issue.
Do not contract with American Home Shield. The service was not what they say it was. When I have a minor issue, they were very good but when it came to something more in depth, I got the runaround. This should not be allowed to happen. There should be some checks and balances in American Home Shield where somebody is reviewing what was going on a claim and if there was a repeat issue, they needed to step in and do something.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I made a claim with American Home Shield for two things. AHS charged me for the $75 fee and then AAA Appliance also charged me. So, I was overcharged twice and I filed a claim for the $75. And on the the other one, the washing machine, which was out of order. The guy who came to fix it that AHS ordered told me that it will have to be replaced. Two weeks passed and nobody called to replace it and we could not wash. I called their customer service department and the guy who extended my contract told me to file a claim.
I filed a claim to be reimbursed for $400 and some even though I paid more than $650. Up to now, AHS said that the claim was no good because it was addressed. I sent a copy of the delivery and it was sent to my address because I paid for my own personal credit card. But the washing machine was delivered to 717 Widgeon and I included the copy of the delivery receipt. I contacted AHS three times. And the last one that I contacted was the department handling the reimbursement. I sent everything that has support for my claim that I really paid for the appliance and was delivered to the place where I have my insurance but I have never received anything from the person as well.
I had a very, very bad experience with AHS. I was thinking of moving somewhere else where I can get good service because I pay my fee diligently and then when it comes to something that has to be done, I get so much trouble. I am very, very dissatisfied because of the bad service that I got and I will not recommend AHS to anybody that I know.

We’ve always been extremely satisfied with American Home Shield. We had some work done the year before when a switch was tripping and so they replaced the switch. And then this year, the whole unit decided it just wanna die. Submitting a claim was very easy. My husband logged on to the website and filled out a request. And we had a confirmation within a few minutes and then the contractor that they contracted with called us almost immediately. The contractor who came was wonderful and we've never had an issue with any of the contractors for any of the claims that we submitted. A gentleman whose name is Theo works for the company that normally comes and he's great. So far, the unit that they decided to put in with American Home Shield has worked wonderfully. And within the month of repairing it, my energy bills have gone down. It has helped me save money. Overall, American Home Shield is dependable.

The last guy that AHS sent was great. He fixed the problem. He was very professional, knew what he was doing and had a lot of experience. The claims submission went fairly smooth and fast. We had somebody out within a week. He couldn’t do it so he recommended somebody else and it was the gentleman that came at the end and he was able to identify the problem and fix it.

I had a plumbing issue and I submitted my claim to American Home Shield online and logged what the issue was. Then, I was contacted back by the company. The contractor was professional and courteous. I've also submitted a claim by calling and I talked to someone at AHS. That was also a plumbing issue and they took care of it. They were prompt and I'm very satisfied with it at this point in time. My son-in-law referred me to AHS and it has been fine ever since.
Thanks for sharing your experience Donald. We look forward to servicing your warranty needs. Have a great week.

We had someone come out to fix the air conditioner. It wasn’t cooling and the contractor put in more coolant into the unit. Our interaction with the contractor was fine. He talked to us and told us what was wrong and what he was going to do. When I submitted the claim, I did it over the phone. And since the repair, AC has been performing fine. We were, however, disappointed in the plumbing, but, other than that, AHS has been fine.

My garbage disposal was not working and then I went online and requested for service with American Home Shield. Their website was pretty easy to navigate. They sent me a text and an email said that the contractor was gonna call me and they gave me the numbers I could call in case the contractor didn't call me back. Then within 24 hours after my request, a lady from American Home Shield called me.
I had the appointment the same day. The contractor assessed the situation and he realized that it was not really the garbage disposal that was defective. It was more an electrical problem so he referred me to another company, contacted American Home Shield and told them that the service needs to move from a plumber service to an electrical service. It was really smooth. I just called one time and the guy came 24 hours after. He was really great and I was happy because he was fast. Overall, American Home Shield was really professional and I didn’t have to wait. And with the submission online, I could pay directly through the system and everything would be paid in advance.

We had a stopped drain and we were assigned a company but they could only come on Monday and we really needed to have it done over the weekend. So, American Home Shield accommodated our needs and assigned another company. That person came, he took his time and cleared the stoppages. He was very good and we were very pleased with him. I would recommend AHS.

I had a good experience submitting a claim with American Home Shield. I do it online and sometimes with a follow up on phone. The contractors they sent out were great. It didn’t take them long to come after my claims were submitted. There were just things that I had to do that I didn’t do that made them have to come back. Other than that, my old oven that was as old as I am was replaced and it's performing excellently. I'm now able to do more.

On December 29th, I called American Home Shield and they said that they will send someone within two or three days and they will charge me a $75 fee. I said “Fine.” AZ Plumbing showed up at my door and they said that my AC had a blown up fuse so they replaced it. After a day, a fuse has blown again, so they came back and they again replaced the fuse. They told me that if it fails one more time, to call them up and they will do something different. It has blown up again, so they came a third time, did some research and spent 2 hours. They then said that the motor is bad and that they have to order it. It’ll take about a week for the motor to come so I said that I will wait for a week. But the motor did not arrive in a week. It took about nine days and by that time we were ready to leave for India. We already had a vacation plan.
So, on January 15th, we left for India and I told them that as soon as the motor arrives to send me an email to let me know and we can schedule a further appointment for the fixing date. We came back on February 14th and I called them up. They made an appointment but this time they told me a different story. They said that it was not the main motor and that it had something to do with the outside unit. So, they just lied to me for about nine days saying that it’s a problem with the motor. My home was without AC for another one and a half month.
On the February 15th to 19th timeframe, they came with someone called a lead technician and they spent another two hours working on the outside unit. They then told me that it’s all fixed and that my AC should be working fine. The AC again didn’t work fine so they came back again and they said it was a problem with the thermostat. So, they replaced the fans in the thermostat but it didn’t work again. I called AHS again and then they came back again. They spent another two hours and they said that there was a problem with the wiring so they redid the wiring but the AC didn’t work again. So, they came around for about the ninth time, then they said that they need to go the attic to check the wiring but they do not have a safe access to the attic.
When someone has come nine times at my house that means he doesn’t know how to do the work. So, I called American Home Shield and told them to get me a new guy but they said that they can’t give me one. I had to deal with these guys and they didn't know anything. They were just screwing up my AC. So, I went outside and got a guy who has a good rating here, right across my community. He came, fixed the AC and charged me $99. It was working fine as soon it was done. American Home Shield is a scam.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was straightforward and I usually do it by phone. My recent claim with them was for a repair of the attic roof. Our fans failed so our attic was getting very hot. But I had a hard time getting someone to want to do the work. First, two folks came out. One of the contractors was McGee services and he was absolutely horrible. The guy showed up and said, "They don't pay me enough to do this. I wanna get paid a 100 bucks and I 'm not doing that work." The guy had been out to our house twice and he refused the job twice as well. One of them was the doorbell and he said that he’s not crawling out to our house to look for the transformers. They had to send another guy out who did it in five minutes. That's not the type of person that AHS needs representing their warranty program. So AHS needs to qualify some of the contractors better.
AHS had to find a third contractor to do the work as the claim was covered. The final contractor who did the work was outstanding! It was a husband and wife electrician team that came out to look and they said, "We're happy to do it." And they did the entire job flawlessly. It looked great. So, they got a dude followed by an outstanding person. The repair kept out attic cooler and it has an important effect on our cooling bills in our house. Overall, AHS had been pretty good at doing what they said they would do. But there had been certain situations where it was very hard to get the repair done in a correct way.
One example is when our GE Profile stainless steel dishwasher failed. It had been repaired four times and the repair company finally came out and said that the dishwasher was not repairable. And when it came a time to get it replaced, we ran into a situation where the person that was on the line for American Home Shield said that we had to choose from black or white. I told him the dishwasher comes in stainless steel. But the rep said that my contract doesn't specify that I have a choice of color. The rep could not seem to get it across to the person that there wasn't a colored choice. That was the most frustrating thing that happened. Then, when AHS couldn't find it, they wanted to give a dishwasher that they figured was a lesser model and I had to spend $800 more to buy the same dishwasher that we had.
We were doing an apples for apples replacement but AHS wants to try and put in a less costly version of what I already paid good money to buy my appliances. When they failed I want them replaced with the same appliance as long as it’s available on the market. And AHS played a little low-cost-denominator model and it made me not want to use them going forward. We're no longer with AHS. They cancelled our contract and that was the end of our contract. They didn't renew it. So, I'm now currently looking for another warranty company to replace them. I'm a lot choosier now as to who I'll go with as a result. And if you go out and look at the Better Business Bureau complaints about American Home Shield, that's one of the number one complaints filed against them.

When he rang the doorbell, he introduced himself, told me who he was with and made sure that he was coming for the right reason. He identified which product or appliance he was coming for and when I said yes, he went straight to work. I was very, very impressed. Since then, it’s been working perfectly.

We were on vacation then but we had a house sitter and American Home Shield has always been good to respond when we have an issue. We were very happy with them. But we just had a grinder pump in our home and we needed a warranty system that had grinder pump coverage. When I talked to them to add it, they said that no home warranty had grinder pump coverage. But I found out different. Somebody in our neighborhood told us that they went with HSA which had the coverage for a grinder pump. American Home Shield has sent out different companies here and their techs have always been nice. We had one for our air conditioner and that worked out. Then for our new air conditioner, we had a maintenance company come out for the fall. They also came out in spring for the AC and the heater. But with the AC, we had to add Freon on it and it was a brand new one. Then on our most recent claim for the icemaker, the contractor took it out to check and ordered a replacement so I didn’t have an icemaker for a few days. Although they brought back the right replacement, it was like the one we had before and still doesn't make ice quickly as it should. But as far as people being nice or trying to help, AHS has all done that. Their rep also has always been very nice when I submit a claim over the phone. I'd recommend AHS to a friend.

We had a leak and the first person I talked to at American Home Shield arranged for somebody to come out within two days to fix it. But from there, the experience went down. The plumber cut a hole in our ceiling and fixed the leak. He said that he would call American Home Shield and they’d send somebody to fix the hole. He then left. A week later, I called American Home Shield to see what was going on. They had no record of the plumber calling to report and of the hole needing to be fixed. If they knew that the plumber wasn’t going to fix it, they would have arranged to have it all fixed at the same time. I spoke to two people five days apart. Neither of them submitted the work order to have it fixed. I finally called back and spoke to a fourth person after the initial call to have the plumber out. She was able to arrange to have somebody come fix it and he called me.
I had two things in the one work order. With the plumbing issue, it had to do with a valve. There was a communication problem between the plumber and me. He said I needed to call American Home Shield and that he wouldn’t be able to do that. But it was on the initial work order. I was confused as to why he couldn’t do that because we couldn’t have a complete conversation. I reported back to American Home Shield that that part was not addressed but I haven’t heard anything from American Home Shield or a plumber to come and fix that. As for the second issue, the drywall fix will be happening on Monday.
Overall, it has been a little bit clunky. When I complained about the plumber who came out, his lack of English and that he only fixed one of our two problems, they said, “Sorry. We’re still gonna have to send out the same person.” I was also disappointed by that. But they said that they would request a senior person. Also, since I’ve called four times and spoken to four different customer service people, there is a definite range of knowledge. It didn’t seem like all four of them knew the steps that needed to be taken to get the problem solved although the first one clearly did. She was efficient and I could understand her really well. The only problem was that I explained that the leak was in the ceiling so it was known that there would need to be a cut. And so at that time, I think that they should have said, “Our plumbers don’t fix drywall so we’ll also arrange to have somebody come fix the hole after it’s cut open."

Something was wrong with my boiler as it wasn't heating, and so I called American Home Shield for that. They gave me the number of the company that they were going to call and then the company called me. What I didn't like was that the company would call me within 24 hours, and that means that I can’t go anywhere for 24 hours since I'm waiting for the phone call to tell when they’re coming out and I don’t wanna miss that. They should call within an hour or two or call the next day. Waiting for 24 hours didn’t make me happy. Nevertheless, the contractor who came out was very nice and the quality of their work was good. The heater works now.
I’ve had AHS for about three years but I have only used them recently in the last six months. I used them again for my refrigerator 12 days ago and the guy that came out and looked at my refrigerator and my dryer knob was good and nice. He had to come back ‘cause he had to put Freon in it. However, when he came back, he was hard to understand and he didn’t leave me any kind of receipt or any kind of paperwork. I asked him about it and he said that he would go out to the truck and get it. But when he went out to the truck, he drove away. I should have called AHS because that was rude. So I called American Home Shield asking if they have any other options, like doing cash out and then I go and buy a new one, and how much they were going to pay me if I cash out. And we've decided to repair it and I wanted to get back to them and say, "Hey, we're repairing," but that process is not smooth because I have to go to some kind of a purchasing department, which is different and not the regular customer service department. It goes through three different people.
While they were able to handle the situation well, it was time-consuming to get to the person and waiting online. And then they need to go and talk with the contractor. That took another two days. American Home Shield was good but I only had them for two months before I discontinued it. The problem was the contractor. I had an issue with the toilet and I submitted the claim over the phone. It took a couple of days before a technician came out and when he did, he acted like I was bothering him. The problem wasn’t fixed either, and the toilet was still running. He said he was fixing it and then he gave me some information about something that I had to do with the main water line. So when my daughter came home, I told her about it. She called American Home Shield again and requested not to have the same technician come out, but he was the same technician who came out.
My daughter told the technician how I felt about his attitude and that maybe he was just having a bad day. She told him what was going on and she tried to explain to him what I told her. He said that it was mixed up somewhere in relaying from what he said to what I told her. He explained it to us again and when he came in the second time, he had a better attitude. Maybe it was because my daughter had called him on it.
He wasn't able to fix the problem. He said the water pressure was too high and that he can't do anything about it. But none of the other pipes were ever messed up. The toilet wasn’t leaking before then and we’ve been in the same house for all these years. I think the piece he used for toilet requires a lower water pressure. We had the box for that part too and it did say on the box what the water pressure should be. Maybe they don’t make the part for high water pressure anymore. The toilet is not leaking though. It just runs every few minutes.
He said that I have to call Water and Power and he made us think that Water and Power could adjust the water pressure, but Water and Power said said they don’t do anything like that. The water pressure is not adjusted per household and they have a certain water pressure for everybody in the neighborhood. They told me I needed to get the valve to lower the water pressure. We looked it up but it goes on to the main water line which is outside. It was a mess. This plumbing company has bad reviews on Yelp too and I don’t understand how American Home Shield is keeping this company. The contractor had also told us that American Home Shield won’t cover anything that has to do with plumbing because we don’t have that thing for the water pressure so we canceled the warranty.

I have a receipt from Value Rooter (the company that AHS sent out) that says that they fixed our sump pump. Since March I’ve been calling AHS and we’ve been told by four different people that it should have been covered per our contract. We sent in the receipt and each time we were told we sent it to the wrong place and given another email address. We then were told that the previous customer service representatives told us the wrong thing, etc. I was even then rudely told, “Well I see you’re getting angry. You’ve been calling every other day. You need to calm down ma’am.” Never have I been rude to customer service, and yes I’ve been calling because repeatedly I’ve been told I would be contacted back within a certain time period and yet nothing ever happens.
I’m a school teacher, my husband is a paramedic and spending $525 on something is a lot of money (hence the reason we have a warranty). We paid for the problem and then got a $75 bill, and then when we called we were told by our specific agent Charles that it should’ve been covered. We weren’t even after getting reimbursed, we were just trying to clear everything up. I’ve never been so disappointed in such awful customer service. It’s not customer service when the customer is having to call repeatedly and being hung up on and being spoken to like that. Then they blamed it on Value Rooter and now all of a sudden when I said I would contact the Better Business Bureau and a small courts lawyer, it’s coming back that the problem somehow is not what I have on the receipt, but something completely different. I’m done with being bullied.

I contacted AHS when the kitchen faucet broke. I repairman stated that it could not be fixed and that they would attempt to get a new part. He also stated that AHS would never replace the entire faucet. Subsequently I found out that AHS was rejecting my claim because the damage was caused by excessive force and not by normal wear and tear. (I had just bought the property 5 months earlier). I contacted the plumbing company and told them that AHS was saying that the plumber had made that report. They denied having said that. According to the plumber they stated that the part needed replacement, and nothing else. So who is the liar??? It is obvious to me that AHS falsified the information so as not to pay for a new faucet. What a dishonest conduct. I will have nothing to do with them again. Use another more honest company.

I've been a customer of AHS for about 15 years. Usually they have been real good and I have been satisfied. Then I called about my Viking stove, which is an expensive commercial stove. Two of the ignitors on the stove quit working altogether, and the other two continue to try to ignite after the stove is lit. Also, one of the ignitors in the oven quit working. My complaint is this; I called in my problem 3 1/2 MONTHS ago. A contractor came by, told me I needed ignitors. He came back a week later with the wrong parts.
Since then I've been told that they cannot find the parts. They even told me that they don't make that part anymore. I thought I was going to get a new stove. My contract says they will pay $3,000 for repair or replacement. Then, two weeks ago I get an email that the parts are ordered. Two weeks ago. Yesterday I emailed Viking, gave them my model and serial numbers and asked if they had ignitors in stock. They said yes. I asked if these were parts that are hard to come by, they answered no, ignitors go out and they can always be gotten within a few days. So why the heck have I been waiting 3 1/2 months, only using 2 of 4 burners on my stove? Because they are expensive. Not near $3,000 expensive. But AHS will only pay for aftermarket parts, even if a 15 year customer has to go without half a stove for 3 1/2 months. When it gets fixed, They're fired.
Hello, Bob I apologize for the overall delays in completion. From the notes, it looks as if the part numbers that we had for the parts needed were incorrect. That is where the major delay stemmed from. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns.

He was very polite, courteous and professional. He checked the problem out, filled the tub back up and but didn't leak anymore. So, he didn't see what the cause of the problem was. However, there was a little round part in the middle of the tub where the water goes down the drain and that part didn't have screws in it. The plumber said that the water possibly ran through there. He tightened it up and also cleaned a little silt where I close the door where I the tub is at. He also said that if we need further service, we should give him a call.

They’re very friendly and they keep me up to date as to what’s going on and what parts they’re using, and they even give me information on what I need to do for future use. I’m very happy with the program and I will let several people know.

We had a hot and cold water shut off valve in our kitchen that was leaking and water went into our pantry. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it went great. They originally said that it was gonna be a couple of days before they could get somebody out. But after I told them that we didn't have water on and I was a week overdue to have a baby, they said somebody was gonna be here the next day. And they pushed it through and figured it out. They put me on hold and called the place directly to make sure that they could get somebody out here ASAP. They were really helpful and when they knew our situation, they went above and beyond. We were really grateful for that.
The contractor that came out was super matter of fact and very polite. He explained some stuff, fixed everything, and even pointed out somethings that we may wanna do in the future. However, I may need to call AHS again because I've noticed there's a little bit of water trickling again. It's a very small amount, though. Before that, we had a water fountain.

We had to have our air conditioner and heater unit replaced. We filed a claim with American Home Shield online and they sent out technicians in just a few days. When they came, everything was clean, tidy and efficient. But, we still had to pay around $2,600 out of pocket because there needed to be a crane, an inspection and a permit as the replacement should be done on the roof of our home. I wasn't aware that these were not covered by the home warranty until I spoke with American Home Shield. Still, I would recommend them.

I had a refrigerator that was acting up and neither us nor my electrician friends could figure it out. Moreover, I had a few other things that were not working properly. I talked to AHS's representative and I was scheduled very quickly. The contractor was very professional and had a high level of expertise. The first time he came to figure out what was wrong with the refrigerator, some water was coming underneath of the refrigerator. He ordered a part, which took three weeks to arrive. I called AHS because he was taking really long. It took longer than expected but after the piece came, AHS called me right away and then I had to wait a few more days for them to come. And then he told me, "Well, it's fixed. You would not see no more water."
A few days after the gentleman first came, there was a lot of water underneath again and I called AHS to tell them what was going on. When the guy came back and took a look at the refrigerator, he told me I needed to call somebody else because he couldn't it figure out. I said asked how can I call somebody else when he said that he fixed this problem. He had to take all of the refrigerator apart and finally fixed it. I called AHS twice for two different things. The claim on the bedroom sink, the technician from Allstate Plumbing was very professional. She was very kind and very on time. The one on the bathroom upstairs and the one with the dishwasher, it was a bad experience. A different contractor came to the house for the dishwasher. I explained to them that the dishwasher in the kitchen wasn’t working properly so they opened the door and they got some parts. They said they were coming back but they never did. When I called American Home Shield, they said that they cannot do anything until they got the reports from the tech.
I called the contractor and they said they cannot fix it but why did they keep the parts out? Why did they leave the dishwasher half of what it was in there? Then I had a leak upstairs in the second bathroom and they said they cannot fix it because it was another warranty. It would cost $200 to fix it outside of American Home Shield. The way they were talking was very disrespectful. The problem is not solved but it’s okay. I’m gonna fix the dishwasher. But the thing is, I had a previous, same problem and I asked the AHS representative to give me Allstate again but they said they couldn’t. They said that it's whoever that picks up their phone calls.

I called American Home Shield first for plumbing and when I got the appointment with the plumbing company to come out, they couldn't come for five days. And since it was a running toilet, I decided I would YouTube it and try to fix it myself and I did. Five days was just too long for a running toilet. Then, two weeks after that I experienced a clogged toilet. So again, I contacted them and this time, notified the company. The same company got sent out again but this time, they were there the next day. James was very professional. He was on time, gave me heads up via phone and text when he was going to come early and finished on time, cleaned up after everything.
He gave me information about my toilet and told me that due to the size and shape, and because it's very old, that it's going to continue to clog. And since I've lived in the house for three years and had done it four times, I took his information and contacted his company through a job because it's not under warranty if it's not broke. I hired James to come back and replace the toilets through my own billing. Since he was speaking knowledgeably, he has done his job right and he cleared my toilet quickly, I took his advice. And since I now own the house, I hired the company to come in and replace the toilet.
However, When I use American Home Shield's website, sometimes I get a little frustrated with the lack of choices on it. Plumbing has five choices. And it's like, "Well, you know, what about that kitchen sink or what about the bathroom sink?" You only have a few choices and so, "Fine, toilet." You just sort of pick it. So, when I was trying to select running toilet, I didn't have that option. I had flooding but I didn't have running toilet. But AHS is well worth my $55 monthly payment to not have to worry about an appliance breaking. I just have my $75 ready and get my appliances fixed.

I paid my fee for the year and didn’t need to use my home warranty until the week. I called in the claim with American Home Shield and it took them a reasonable amount of time to get someone out. I sent in $75 and a plumber came out, looked at the dishwasher and solved the problem which was it was not installed correctly. Therefore, the mechanisms could not work. The plumber had to come back and he worked for a very long time repositioning the dishwasher and then the mechanisms could work and it's been fine ever since. He was very polite and knowledgeable, and I was very pleased with what he did.
I would use the company that was sent out here again and again and recommend them very much, but the plan was not very useful for me. I paid between $500 and $600 for the service and sent in $75 when the service was done. So, for ordinary things at home, that’s not a very good burden and if I had something very expensive that needed to be replaced, then yes, it would be. But over three years, I would have saved between $1,500 to $2,000.

Then he told me that I was gonna have to repair $36,000 worth of things in my home which was not the case. I was in panic mode because it was my first day moving into my property and I couldn’t get a resolution or an understanding of how quickly it was gonna be serviced. The next contractor was a Hevac person and then another plumber came, and they were both excellent. But it was a lengthy repair. It took literally four days to finally get it resolved. American Home Shield sent out a company for our heating system and I liked the guy who came out. But he put in a different thermostat because he said they were out of the more expensive one. It was strange but it was fine because we didn’t use all the extra stuff. Plus we would have had to wait longer. I was happy but I could hear something. It was clicking and I called the company back. The guy came out and said that the reason the system was making a noise and was not clicking on and off was that the dryer was out on the compressor outside. He also said that our breaker went out but he had fixed it which I appreciated.
But then I got a call a week later saying that they would come out but I would have to buy the Freon from them. I wondered why they would be telling me that and they said that American Home Shield would only pay for $11 a pound and they charge $100, which seemed expensive. I told them that I would check into it and call them back. I called two other companies and one charged $39 while the other one was $42 per pound of Freon. It sounded like the company was making their money off of the Freon off me. I understand charging $10 more than average but not $60 more per pound.
I called and told American Home Shield. But they said it was the company’s choice and that the company can set any price they want. That concerned me. The company also said that they can’t use my old Freon and I may need 10 pounds. That would be $900 if they fill it up and that was bothering me. So I called the contractor who replaced my mother-in-law’s and I asked him to come out. Before he came out, it turned warm in Alabama so I turned on the air conditioner but we had no air. I called American Home Shield and they said that the company who was out didn't report the issue and I would have to use the same company.
When the contractor came out, he told us that the dryer was out and that he would sell us the Freon at his cost. He also said that I had a bad coil and he showed me a picture of it on the inside. But I was sure that the company had previously checked on that. I asked if it could have been messed up when I was running my air and since the dryer was messed up, it could have messed up the coil as well. The guy said that it could have. So I called American Home Shield but the rep said that they can’t do anything about the coil because the company didn’t report it. I called the company back and asked them to come and look at the coil. But they told me that they won’t come out unless I agree to buy Freon from them.
I called AHS again to tell them that the company wouldn’t come back out unless I agreed to sign the Freon. AHS said they would send a second company out. That was great. But then I got a call back telling me that they won’t do it since it was not reported by the first company. I couldn’t understand why AHS wouldn’t send out a second company because they could have verified that the coil was indeed out. Something was not right and I felt like I was being ripped off.
That company was professional when they came out but I didn’t like that I had to call saying I had to buy the Freon from them. And they wouldn’t come back out and say anything about my coils because I wouldn’t really buy the Freon. It says that in the contract and I get that. But I should be able to get a second company to come out if I don’t feel right about the first company. The AHS rep also kept saying that the company will fix the dryer and if there will be a problem within 60 days, then they’ll have to fix it. But they will not fix it unless I buy the Freon from them the second time and it will be $2000. It was not right and it was stressing me out.
I asked for the buy-out and I also kept asking for managers and they didn’t wanna give me one. But I finally got one. They said that was how they dealt with that and that another department decides about the buy-out. Meanwhile, the weather turned cold again and we needed heat. So I went ahead and got it all replaced. If I had paid for the inside coil, I would still have to pay about $1000. In the end, I paid $1100 but I felt like I could trust the contractor more than this other company that was charging more than double the two other companies. On the other hand, when a company came out for plumbing, I was happy. I paid the $75 and the guy was free in 15 minutes. But I’m not gonna end up keeping American Home Shield. I’ve been paying $60 a month and I also paid the $75 but I felt like I couldn’t win.

Each time we had to get it fixed it cost us around $200 if not more. If the leak did not get fixed the first time, and we kept having the same issue at least 4 more times, why would they not just replace the air unit? Because they dont care about their customers, they only care about their money! We ended up having to buy a new air conditioner on our own. I called to cancel our AHS policy and it doesn't seem like they cared to lose us anyways.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for my heating system that went down and the process was easy. They contacted a local vendor and the local vendor came out and gave it an estimate. They were awesome and very competent. Apparently, the estimate was higher than American Home Shield had wanted so AHS got a second opinion. By the time the original happened, that was very quick. And then from that moment, it seemed to take a fair amount of time to get a second opinion. The second vendor kept in touch with me a fair amount and they seemed competent. It was just more of a time frame. They said that they had many jobs before me that had been waiting so I can’t really hold American Home Shield accountable for that because they're intermediary. AHS ended up replacing the unit with the second vendor and had to order the unit which took two weeks.
The entire process took four weeks and I would have rather of them taking the first bid, but I'm sure they have processes that required a second opinion. The unfortunate thing was, the residence is in a rural area so a second, third, fourth opinions are hard to find. This is not my primary residence so, if it was my primary residence, it would have been a different story. I understand that it was in the middle of the dead of winter and it did not allow me to use it during the time period. I had no heat at all so I was worried at that time for the time frame that it was taking. But I had a positive experience overall. I had a claim two years prior for the same thing and at that point in time, they had fixed the unit. Both my experiences have been pretty good with American Home Shield. They were pretty responsive. I've told a bunch of people that I've been very happy with them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. I have put in two claims, one for the heater and the other one was for something else. I submitted them online via their user-friendly site and both claims were resolved. Though they could improve on the structure and also the size of the font found on their site. At 33, I'm relatively young and I can figure out my way around the site. But for elderly folks who are not as tech-savvy, bigger font and better structure in the way of words would be preferred. Let's say, on one page it would be like, "Do you need to file a claim? Click here." less stuff around it and very basic.
The contractor that came out to service our claim was fantastic and extremely professional. We had Nest and their service level was great. We found it wasn't an easy issue and it had to do with the electrical connection with the heater and the AC. Long story short, my parents were struggling because it was really cold and the contractor came out the same day or the next to fix it. It was really quick. We went to the electric systems of it, the technology system with all the gizmos. And then, even there, we were also advised about the filter, which I went out to Home Depot and had it changed. And it was great. They were awesome. The air conditioning has been perfect since the repair.
American Home Shield definitely picked the right contractor for the air conditioning. The business end we worked with was really helpful. I'd recommend American Home Shield and tell people that it's affordable and the contractor was great. An area for improvement though would be to have a lower rate. It is $75 for each visit and if they could cut that down to $70 or $65, it would even be a bigger home run. A lot of the contractors are paid $85 for the visit so, AHS customers are getting the benefit of about a 20% allocation off. But a greater discount would be even more satisfactory.

Once I started talking to the contractor, the guy just lit up. He was very nice, very confident, probably working in a job well beneath his capability. And he wasn’t complaining either. He was polite, smart and he knew what he was doing. He fixed the problem and he didn’t do a workaround. There were some people who came in and tried to fix the problem on the cheap. But his experience had told him that was not the way to go. He said, “I’m just going to replace your ice maker unit because if I don’t, it’ll probably never work quite right.” So he did it and it didn’t take long. He was fast, professional, and our ice maker is working. It’s the kind of service you expect but rarely get.

American Home Shield's contractor has been out twice. There was a plate on the faucet in the bathtub that had worn over time. I couldn’t screw it tightly onto the wall, so the technician replaced that. But to replace it, he had to replace the handle mechanism too. The whole thing came in a kit and that’s what he put on. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was really easy. I just did it online and then I got a text or email back as to who’s gonna come out. So far, all is good now.

I recently filed a claim online to American Home Shield for the hot water heater. The claim process was easy and the turn around was extremely fast. The contractor did a good job. They came in, evaluated what the problem was and fixed it. They were in and out in half an hour. Since then, the water heater has been working well. I would recommend AHS.

I had no difficulties filing an online claim with American Home Shield for my stove. They contacted me the following day. The guy that came was super. He knew what the problem was as soon as I explained the issue. A capacitor had blown on the stove due to the design. When I did the clean-the-oven thing, it would blow. He had the needed part on hand and although he had to pull the stove out of the wall to get the part replaced, he was in and out in an hour. It was a great deal and I won’t hesitate to reach out to AHS if I have an issue again.

Back in the winter time, we had a plumbing issue that had something to do with our septic tank. Our toilets weren’t draining properly but the septic tank didn’t have to be pumped at that time. The problem was something that American Home Shield can deal with. They sent somebody right out. So, we had a really good experience. And then we had another issue with a tank with the water heater. The pilot went out and wouldn’t come back on and American Home Shield sent a plumber for that too. That got fixed and that was fine too.
It’s difficult to get American Home Shield on the phone when submitting a claim. They tell me to go online and do it and I can do it online or I can hold for a little while on the phone. And either way, I tell them what the problem is. The only issue that I have is I never know what company it is going to be. There might be a local company or someone a little farther out because they don’t always stay with American Home Shield.
The first time we called for our air conditioner, we had a local large company come right out the same day and it was fantastic. And then they came out again for our first plumbing issue. But the second time we had a plumbing issue, these people were no longer with them because then we got somebody from another town about 30 miles away. But we were happy with the last fellow. He did a good job, but he’s a small company. He's just himself and one more person. He was on a big job and we had to wait for him to get done, but it was still within the parameters that American Home Shield laid out. We understood that.
We're completely satisfied with the repairs and we’re very happy with American Home Shield. It seems like they get it. But there was another issue that maybe they could fix. We called in when we were having a plumbing issue and this was during an ice and freeze storm. And so, places around town, sometimes may not be open or people couldn’t get to work. The way American Home Shield notified the plumber that was to come out, was through an email. They don’t get them on the phone. But the girl that was in charge of handling the emails and passing them on didn’t make it to work that day, so when I called the plumber, they said they didn't get the message.
The same thing happened with the last plumber. I ended up calling him because he was not in his office all day long and he gets the messages at the end of the day. I wish American Home Shield had a back-up and instead of sending an e-mail, they’d send these people a text or call them. I get a little impatient, but I try not to. When I call American Home Shield and say that I need their help, they've got a job and eventually, I'd expect that I'm going to get a call within a few hours. And when I don’t, I would want to know if they received the call and sure enough, both times they had not. So, I wish American Home Shield would change their notification system. Otherwise, we’re good and I’d recommend them. We got them since we bought our house in September a year ago.
Thanks for sharing your experience Lee. We look forward to servicing your warranty needs in the future. Have an amazing week.

Then, they dispatched the technicians out and they were on my property in two days. The first technician was average and the second one was outstanding and I highly recommend him. When we called him back, he said that we needed to call AHS so we did. And then they said that the part number was no longer available so they had to order a new oven. The guy took his time to explain to me everything that was going on and what needed to be resolved. He went through each and every one of the situations, which made me feel better.
When he came back, he called to tell me that he was on his way, which was awesome. I work from home sometimes and that made it really convenient for me. He then put stuff all over his shoes to make sure it's clean. When he finished, he waited outside my office even though I wasn’t even talking to anybody on the phone. That was very, very good. When I got into my home, there was a stain on my bedroom wall, which happened to be underneath an air conditioning unit upstairs. So, I called American Home Shield to have somebody come out and take a look and see if there was a problem with the unit. I was worried about mold and they had sent somebody out the next day. It seemed really quick. The person who came out was very knowledgeable, inspected the unit and walked through the home that I have two air conditioners. He made sure that everything was operational and confirmed for me that there was no problem. That the problem preexisted before I moved in. I now am very comfortable that I don't have an issue behind my wall.
He said that it looked like there was evidence that a brand-new unit had been placed in before I moved in. It has new standards and there's a drip pan underneath it, and there was no staining underneath the new one. He said the stains on the wall were probably old and maybe missed during inspection. I really appreciated how fast it was. It was a good experience. It's a great thing to have a home warranty if you're getting into a new home because of all the unknowns. Now it's the Middle of April and we still don't have a working system. No calls, no one updates you, you call and you will be on HOLD for at minimum of 30 minutes. When you do get someone it's the runaround. This is EXPEDITED service! This is the second issue I had with this group. Back in September, I had to get the regional manager on the phone and I only tracked her down through our Real Estate Agent.
Now I am so fed up with the lack of service or commitment to doing anything remotely professional, I am writing this review so EVERYONE can read and understand what they are NOT getting when they use this organization. If I could give negative Stars I would be! UNHAPPY does not even come close. I could run something out of my basement with tin cans and string and you would get better service! It's so sad I called them, and I have been on hold, created this account, and wrote this before anyone even picked up the phone call.

There was a problem with the turn knob of our dryer. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was really easy. All I did was call, give them my customer number, let them know which appliance was broken and that it's a General Electric, then they gave me a call in 24 to 48 hours to set up an appointment. The tech had to take a part at the top of the dryer to replace a piece underneath in order for it to turn on because for a while, it wasn't turning on by itself.
I have AHS for nine months now and this was the second claim I had with them. So far, the contractors they sent out have been excellent. The guy for the dryer waited for us to show up a few minutes later because we got stuck in traffic and he was real nice and super friendly. My microwave's door wouldn't open. My husband called American Home Shield and they were very prompt in getting someone out to look at the trouble. The contractors called us with the appointment the day after my husband called them and they came out in less than a week. Still, they were prompt compared to some people who take forever and don't get in touch. Furthermore, the contractors were very good about coming out, notifying us and keeping us informed about what was going on. The tech was very friendly, very outgoing and told us what the problem was. He said that they did not have the part inside and they would have to order it. He and one other fellow, each came out one time and both times the part that we got was broken. The techs didn't discover it until after they got it opened to put in the replacement.
Finally, the last guy that came out got ready to leave and I said, "You know, instead of you wasting your time making a trip, you probably should make sure that the one you're going to put in is not broken." It took about 10 days to get the part and they seemed to be able to get the part readily. It’s just that it was broken. Then when the other guy came out, he said they got five broken parts before they finally got one that wasn't broken. Nevertheless, the microwave's door has been excellent since the repair.

I’m leaving town in two weeks and I will not be back to my home in Tucson until the fall. The contractor that was sent out by American Home Shield was Super Drain Rooter & Plumbers and there were two different people that came out here. Apparently, when he first came, I thought that he put new guts in the toilet, but he did not. Then the second time around, he did that so I’m praying that everything is okay. The bottom line is that all these people try to get away with as little they can do and still fix it. They kind of do it half-assed, to begin with, and then hopefully, that works and nobody complains. But I’m not used to half-assed and it just wasn’t working. Referring to the toilet, that seemingly is working well now but who knows what may happen?
We’ve had American Home Shield for years in our other home but when I bought this place, the warranty that came with the purchase was the Old Republic. The claims process went pretty smooth. The contractor came out and tested the unit and found the compressor was out. It was under warranty so they were able to replace it and I just had to pay for the Freon that they put in it. All in all, that was a good experience and they knocked it up pretty quick.
It was the same thing with the plumbing issue. We had a shower that wasn’t getting any hot water to it when we first moved in the same week. The contractor was able to go up to the hardware store, and find a plastic part for the knob, come back, and install it. That was also a very pleasant experience. The heat was not working and I submitted a claim for that with American Home Shield by phone and had a good interaction with the rep. It took two days for a tech to come here and he was great and explained. They’re here replacing the unit right now. We had a misunderstanding because I was dealing directly with the contractor and he told me about the upgrade. I told him that I was interested in that. But somehow, nobody called me back and I ended up getting a letter from the buyout department. I called that number and told them that I was interested in the upgrade. However, I was very confused and frustrated and so I had to call back the contractor again and then he told me that I have to call back a different number. They should have sent me an email about the upgrade and I was supposed to either accept that or go ahead.
The technician told me that my email address was wrong and thus, I wasn’t getting all the information. So it took over a week from the time the technician first came in and then finally getting it replaced. Fortunately, it wasn’t freezing and I had to use a space heater throughout that time in between. So, that was a little frustrating and I’m a little disappointed that only the compressor was covered under my warranty. I have to pay an extra $4,000 to get everything else replaced. My water heater stopped working and it was leaking water pretty badly in the basement area. It was an older water heater so there was no shut-off valve and I made every effort to get American Home Shield to expedite the order, but it still took a full week where I had running water in the basement. I had to have my 16-year-old son use the HVAC to pump the water out every morning, afternoon, and evening. It was also cold 'cause this was back in March, so it was a choice of either a cold shower or warming up water in buckets which is what we ended up doing.
We spoke to a representative several times and made calls daily because first we would speak with the representative, then we would try to find out if they can send over someone who has a water heater in stock. And that was information they didn’t really have. I had to go back and forth and call the people myself to see what they had in stock and how long it would take. Even the process I was told was not quite right because I was told that when they come in, once they see what the problem is, they put in the order that day and they can approve it the next day. However, that's not what happened at all. They came in that day, put in the claim, and it wasn’t until two days later that American Home Shield said yes.
There was pointing of fingers wherein American Home Shield would tell me that the vendor is the one who had got to move it quickly, and then the vendor would tell me that American Home Shield had got to approve every item before they could go ahead and place an order. I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. Everyone basically said it was the other guy. So, it was mornings on the phone with the vendor and afternoons on the phone with American Home Shield. It was terrible with respect to the response time and I'm definitely concerned because I'm thinking about getting a rental property and thought about getting American Home Shield, but if I've got tenants, there's no way I could explain to them that it's going to take a full week if something like that happened.
The technician was great, though. As soon as he saw the water, he said it was a problem and that he was going to put it in for expediting. He attempted to see what he could do to shut it off but he couldn't because it was an older water heater and we didn’t have a valve, but he made an effort to at least stem the problem. I was happy that he saw it was an issue and he definitely moved quickly on his end to submit whatever he had to submit. The water heater was completely caput, so we got a new one that's working well and everything is fine.
I have no issue with the work that was done at all and I wouldn't have cared if it was a dishwasher or something like that, but I was surprised that they didn’t have any kind of expedited process for something that's as serious as a major appliance. They just didn’t understand the urgency. I also ended up having to come out of pocket, $640 on top of the $133. I guess it's the fine print. In the items, it's like I had no choice but to upgrade because of regulations but my warranty apparently doesn’t cover that, so I had to pay that. And I would think if I had to pay that, that $133 would be part of it but it was not. So ultimately, I ended up putting out the $133 plus the $640 and a week without hot water.

The fridge and the gas cooker weren't working. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield over the phone and everything went smoothly as usual. The rep listened and received each issue separately. Everyone did as well as they could, but not all contractors communicate the same way. I really like the person who came for the fridge. He seemed to communicate well. He sent a text message and called when he was on his way. Moreover, I felt he was really professional and asked a lot of questions about how the problem started. He was prepared and proactive. He had the tools for things that easily get exposed ready in the van. And he fixed the fridge before he left. I definitely loved the sweet experience with him and I would prefer if they can call that person in when I have any fridge or freezer problem.
However, with the stove, I called and left messages but it took more than a week before I was able to get in touch with the person who came to fix it. I'm still waiting for the parts of the stovetop to be ordered, so the tech hasn't been back yet. I assumed that when it's been ordered then he would let me know and schedule for a time to come back and fix it. An American Home Shield warranty is a good thing to have because the homeowner's insurance will not fix any of these things. One would have to fix it out of pocket. Unless they have $1,000,000 somewhere, it pays to proactively pay to have things repaired.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield over the phone for a dishwasher which pump went out. The reps I've talked to were good and they followed up right away on it. Everything was fine. The tech who came to my home figured out the issue right away as well. He told me it would take a few days to get the part because it was an older dishwasher. Then after a few days, I got a call from AHS telling me he's coming in. He came back with the part and the dishwasher has been working fine since. I’m satisfied with AHS that I also got my kids going with them.

My oven stopped working. I could turn it on, but it would go off. When I called AHS to file my claim, it took a little while for them to send someone out. They said that if anything would go wrong and I would call, they would send out a technician the next day. But it took five weeks before somebody came. Plus, I had to keep calling them and see what was going on.
When the guy from B & M Appliance Service came out, I told him what was going on and he put a thermostat in. Then after he left and I tried to cook dinner, the oven was doing the same thing. So they had to order panels which took about two more weeks. But they didn't even call me and let me know that they ordered the panels. I had to call them myself to see whether they were gonna send somebody back out and that's when they told me about the panels. They said that they initially couldn't find the panels but thought they could find them earlier so they didn't let me know about it. But they finally found one and their rep told me that the part would be in about five days, so I gave them five days in order for them to contact me and let me know when the technician was coming out.
I then called them back and they told me that he would be out the next day. But the technician told me that he was backed up that day and asked if he could make it the next day. I said yes so, he came the next day and now, everything has been straightened out and working okay. All in all, I would recommend AHS. However, they should touch base with the customer and let them know what's going on. If they can't come out that day, they should call and let me know. They have my phone number where they can text me. They should also let me know if they can't find the part and it's gonna take a while, so I know what's going on and I wouldn't be all day trying to wait on them at home.

I’ve had American Home Shield since I bought the house in ’97 and they’ve always done a good job. It’s always easy to submit a claim. When our Viking electric oven went out, my wife called it in and Astro Appliance came over. They looked at the oven, figured out what they needed and left. They contacted American Home Shield who then supplied the part. The part looked like a used part because there were some burn marks on it and it came from some eBay company. I was very leery of that Viking appliance because there were all kinds of problems with them locating parts for them. But American Home Shield found the part. Astro called up one Saturday afternoon. They had received the part and they asked if they could come over. They came on Saturday evening and installed the part. The oven is working now.
Hi, Michael. We are glad to know that your Viking oven was repaired correctly. Often times, the parts for hi-end appliances can be difficult to locate. Thank you for your patronage.

Then he went ahead and made the appointment. I got a call from Legum’s Heating and Cooling then the guy came out. I contracted AHS Home Warranty for all appliances. One very first call, for a failed dishwasher, the visiting mechanic diagnosed it as failed circuit board. And added a reason of possibly due to insect infestation. AHS refused repair pointing to a fine print in contract for not under the coverage. The service is bad to extent, that visiting mechanic did not care to offer a price quote for replacement or AHS to order a 2nd review. AHS charged its $100 for visiting mechanic per the contract. AHS purchase phone call was responsed very quickly, but after the incident I had to wait for 20-35 mins on hold to cancel this warranty contract with the AHS cancellation dept.
Hello, Sanjay. I apologize that the diagnosis led to the denial of your dishwasher claim. we could have sent a second opinion company to diagnosis, but I see that your policy was canceled in January.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is simple and I usually do it online. The site is user-friendly and then I receive a call from the contractors on the same day. But if there's an issue that keeps recurring and they're not fixing the problem, I call and talk to somebody because I can be a little bit more descriptive. And they would handle it. The reps are professional and my interactions with them have been fine.
American Home Shield had my air conditioner serviced and the contractor they sent was really friendly and quick. He identified the issue, fixed it and was gone in about 45 minutes. I keep having issues with the AC and I've had it serviced about three times in about a year and a half. So, if I call them out again, I'd tell them that we would need to do a little bit more research because the issue keeps happening.
Anytime I had asked American Home Shield to sent someone out, it's been fairly easy and usually quick. With air conditioning in the Texas summers, we need someone to come out rapidly. Usually, within a day or so, someone comes and adjusts the issues. Moreover, I like how they have something where one can look up their coverages, like on a second menu. I have my pool equipment, all my electrical, plumbing, and appliances on there. Having AHS is not that expensive for how much money one can save if something goes wrong. American Home Shield is a great service.

We submit our claims with American Home Shield by phone. We wanna speak to someone so that they’d understand what our problem is. We had our recent claim for our water heater, and the contractor that AHS sent was horrible. The first time they came out, they sent a young boy out here. And in order to access the flame guard and take it off to get to wherever the thermostat, he beat our pan all up. The heater sits down on a pan, so if it was to overflow the pan will catch it. It was a brand new pan and he sat here with a hammer and beat it down to get to it, instead of using the proper tools, and then left it that way.
They sent the same people out again this latest time. The first person that they sent out for this particular incident that we’re having right now, came out and as soon as he got here, he realized it was a propane water heater and they don’t work on propane. And we made it clear to AHS that we have a propane water heater. They sent out two people that do not do propane water heaters. However, the company that gave us the quote this time don’t do propane water heaters either but they said they will do this one.
We're in a dispute because the water heater needs to be changed. And the company that they sent out here wanna charge us almost $500 out of our pocket to replace the water heater. They were putting it down on their paperwork that things have to be modified, and because of it, AHS won’t cover the modifications. And there are three of flex tubes that they’re talking about changing. So, in essence, AHS is supposed to be paying to replace the water heater and have it installed, but we’re paying for the installation because of what the companies are saying.
And I’m not the only one with this problem. I’ve done a lot of research on it and this seems to be very common with AHS and their contractors, and we’re not happy about that. I shouldn’t have to pay to have it installed. And now AHS has agreed to do a buyout for $500 which is fine, but for someone to come in here and to change out this water heater and do the installation with no modifications at all is a total of $950, which was the lowest that we found. The average is about $1,150. So regardless, even if they didn’t have to do any modifications at all AHS is paying nowhere near what it really cost to repair or replace a water heater and have it installed. We’re having a drawback cost and I’m not happy about that at all. I pay for a warranty, and it says they will take care of me and they’re not doing that.
Our experience was horrible and I will not renew with them. If I have to spend $500 out of my own pocket, my husband can go down and buy the water heater and install it himself. I made a comment on their Facebook page and they said, “We’re very sorry. Send us your information and we will contact you and discuss this problem.” And so I did that and the only response I got back was, “Thank you for letting us know your contract information.” So, I already know what they’re gonna do. They're gonna drop me and not renew me but I don’t plan on renewing anyway. Instead of fixing the issue, they’re just trying to find out who I am and where my contract information so that they could not renew. I dropped them last year and they called me back, and practically begged us to use them, and so, I did. I gave them another chance and here we are. I was very dissatisfied, and I would not recommend to a friend at all.

He did that, they assigned us a COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT tech company who didn't show for the 1st or 2nd appointment. 1.5 weeks later, he finally showed up, left after 5 mins saying he couldn't fix it & we needed a new one. We hadn't heard anything for 5 more days, so my husband called today. AHS claimed the tech never gave them the information, which is ridiculous in itself, yet they never thought to follow up with us or them. Never once have they called us, we have to initiate all contact. We were told to wait 24-48 hours for an email about our options, then it'll take another 5-14 days for any type of action to be taken.
In the meantime, we are spending unnecessary money to go to a laundromat. I called customer service, which was USELESS, spent over an hour on the phone to which I was hung up on 3 times and transferred more times than I can count, only to get someone on the line who said they couldn't help, transferring me AGAIN, to which I was then hung up on AGAIN. I have never been treated this way by a company. When I asked what they planned to do to compensate for their terrible service and to keep us as a customer, they said NOTHING. Filing my claim over the phone when my washing machine broke was great. I just went through their automated system. The first person that was sent out was nice but didn't fix the problem, so I had to have someone else come out and Deal Appliance, the contractor, was wonderful. The guy was very good and thorough. I could tell he wanted to fix the machine and I was really appreciative of that. I've been with American Home Shield since 2012 and have had some people come out that weren't so great, but for the most part, they get on it and get me taken care of, so I'm happy with that.
Thanks for your feedback Dana. We look forward to handling your future warranty need. Thanks for choosing AHS. Have an amazing weekend.

I called someone at American Home Shield for a claim due to a blocked toilet and they were good. The contractor they sent out was a very nice guy and fixed it right away. We had just bought the house and had the blockage, so we didn't know what it was but he was very good.
I enjoyed reading your review and I am glad to hear that our contractor did a good job repairing the toilet blockage. I hope that you continue to enjoy your American Home Shield warranty as well as your new home!

I submitted my claim with American Home Shield over the phone. It was for my dryer, and I had a good experience with the rep that I talked to. The contractor they sent out was very professional and the time it took to fix the issue was good. And I like the fact that American Home Shield expedites things. I would recommend them.
Delann,
I was delighted to read your review and hear about the wonderful experience that you have had as a customer of American Home Shield. We are glad that the contractor did a good job of repairing your dryer and expedited the service.

The lights would not come on on the west side of the house. I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone and the person I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. They sent someone out the next day and the guy was very nice. He did a very good job and I was very happy with his work. If someone asked me about AHS, I would say that that it would be wise to at least call and speak with them.
Hello, Ruth. We are pleased to know that you electrical issue was resolved quickly. Thank you for letting us know about your experience.

The pump stopped pumping on our dishwasher. We called American Home Shield and it took a couple of days before we finally got something going. We've been with them for nine years now and we’ve had some problems with one of the companies that they use. We asked them not to send that particular company out and we wanted another company to come out that we've had a good experience with. But AHS said that they couldn’t change the contractor who was coming out. So, we got stuck with the company that we had a terrible experience with.
When their guy came out, he said the problem was the pump and the motor, and that he was going to order new ones. It took another week and a half for the new items to come in, then he came back out. But they only sent him the motor so that was what he put in when he arrived. After, the door of the dishwasher wouldn’t latch because when he had it on the ground while he was putting in the motor, he banged it. Then, when he went to put it back in, he used his knew to force it in. This is all stainless steel and a very nice piece of equipment. And now the thing wouldn’t turn on right because the door wouldn't latch. So, we had to order the parts for the latch and we waited another week and a half for that. When the tech came back, he got the latch in but the machine still won't operate. It’s not recognizing everything right and the sensors are all messed up in the door.
So we were pissed, we called American Home Shield, and they sent out another contractor for a second opinion. A guy came out, stood there, looked at the dishwasher, and said that he had no idea what the first guy did and it was going to take him five trips out here to figure it out. So he told me that they’d just order a new machine. He didn’t do anything, never even picked the machine out, or opened the door. Our dishwasher is a $1500 machine and American Home Shield told me that they were going to give me $750 for a new one. I told them to get the other company that started this nightmare back out here and get them to fix it. When I called that company, the owner told me that they were out of it and that once AHS brought in a second opinion, they had no liability on it anymore.
When I told American Home Shield about it, they said that that’s the way it works. I would have never had a second opinion if somebody told me that. I would’ve had them come out 10 times and replace every single part in that thing until it worked right. It was their responsibility. So now I'm stuck with $754. AHS wants to replace my high-end Kenmore Pro with a GE and they haven't even sent me the specs that I asked for of the machine that they want to replace mine with. I’m sure the replacement is nowhere near what the quality of what I had was. I called AHS two times about this issue and asked for a manager to call me but I never got a callback. And every time I asked for a supervisor, they said they were busy. They even said, “What's a supervisor going to tell you any different than I told you?” It has been over a week now and I’m still waiting for a call. It's ridiculous.

Our overall experience with American Home Shield has been good. My wife filed a claim for our dryer and the time it took Sears' tech to come out was good. When you have a dryer down you need it right then and there but they were fair enough. Moreover, the interaction with the tech was pleasant. He came right in, did the job and came out quickly. The dryer is now working well. We always recommend AHS and have given their phone number to some people.
I'm happy to know that AHS has been able to provide satisfactory service. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Have a beautiful week.

The shutter valve on the inside of the house was making a drumming noise so I submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the internet. After I called one day, the technician came out the next. He explained what he was doing and so far the shutter valve has been good. Having a warranty on the property has been good so far and others should probably get it as well.
Hi Joyce,
I am pleased to hear that your experience with American Home Shield has been great! Also, I am glad that submitting a claim online was easy and the technician was able to repair the shutter valve. I hope that you continue to have a good experience!

I have five properties with American Home Shield and there have been multiple issues from the heater to the plumbing to the fixtures. The more recent one was the heater. It's convenient to have the same company for all of the properties and to have someone that you can have a long time relationship with. So, I've been with them for more than 10 years. We use multiple ways to submit a claim. Sometimes, the tenant calls, sometimes I do it online and sometimes, I call. The customer service for American Home Shield itself especially when calling, is very difficult. It's very challenging and the follow up of the people that you speak to is not always good. Ironically, the other day, I got a good person, did the follow through and called me back. But that should be all the time, not some of the time.
I have literally made my way through the administrative offices of American Home Shield before. It is the way that I got the issue resolved with Carl's Plumbing because I have the documentation to show and even a more recent plumber that I had an issue with was completely dishonest. When you have contractors who don’t want to do the work and as a result, are dishonest, that should make AHS do business with them differently and that didn’t happen. AHS continues to do business with them and allows them to take advantage of their customers as well as mistreat them. Even though I went to the administrative offices on Carl's Plumbing and that was some years ago. On the more recent plumber, a second opinion came out and things got rectified because the second opinion didn’t agree with the first one. But the company and the treatment, they didn’t do anything about it.
The company that did the work around my central air unit was completely unacceptable. It took June to December for me to get my central air unit fixed. And the first company they sent out said they didn’t do the work. Then when the company that started to do the work did the work weren’t doing it right. And so, I had to call in experts to prove that they weren’t doing it right. So then, another company came out and I was fine with that company but they've had a staff change so they couldn't do the work. The price of the company that did the work was two or three times higher. Then the company that was just before them, and American Home Shield told me they couldn't do anything about it, their price was the way it was even though it was jacked up because that company was smaller so they don’t get their supplies and keep as the other company.
So I told them to give me a larger company. And in the end, I pay this maintenance insurance which by no means am I expecting that they're going to be jacking stuff up so that I'm paying thousands of dollars. And then lastly on the same thing, the company that came out to do the work had to put in a whole new system. They put electrical tape on the outside to hold the stuff together. I live in Wisconsin and that's not going to survive. So, when it doesn’t survive, I'm going to end up having to pay somebody to do it right. American Home Shield won't address it. They said it’s cosmetic but it’s not. It has to be protected from the weather and the fact that they're not protecting it from the weather is not funny. It’s just one thing after another and I'm just like, "Oh my goodness."
Those three situations have been so horrific that it overshadows all the good. My son has asthma and we have to have central air. Without central air, I had to send my son away because he couldn't live in his own house and they did not accommodate us in any way. I shared my feedback on their website, they responded and then I still didn’t get an adequate response.
So, I had one representative who ultimately said he’s going to be the one who's gonna deal with this with me all the way through the end. That's what they told me and so when that happened, that made it a little better and I appreciated that when that happened. But she told me that I’m going to have to accept the contractor and their price and I said that should not be okay. Their price could be a thousand dollars more than somebody else's price which happens to be the exact price difference that I paid to get the other one. The good part is that he did at least agree to fix the ceiling even though at first, other people were saying they weren’t going to do that.
If I had time and clarity on another option, I would leave yesterday. I tell people multiple times a year that they should get maintenance insurance and people don’t often know about it. So, just for clarity, I tell people about it all the time. I refer people to American Home Shield on multiple occasions and I get nothing for that and I've referred multiple people to them and I've said, "Calling in is a headache and service is not always good but it's a good thing to have." I wish for them to do well and address the issue that exists because overall, I really appreciate having the service.

We had a blockage in our tub and the contractor sent by American Home Shield came. Submitting the claim online was easy. They said that they would call me within 24 hours, but they did not call me back for 11 days, so I called them. The interactions with the rep on the phone and with the contractor, nevertheless, were fine. The contractor was in and out easily. They said they fixed the tub but it is now acting up again. One vague thing that AHS does is that they hold my credit card information and they charge it whenever they want. It literally has taken them over three months to charge the credit card for services.

I filed a claim online when my oven was inconsistently hot and cold and it wasn't baking correctly. The submission didn’t seem to work all that well as there was some disconnect between my claim and whoever received it on the other end, and there was a lot of delay. It took four days before I heard from anybody and when they called me, they said that they just saw that I made a claim. That could go a lot smoother.
But other than that, the person they sent in was great. The contractor did a good job at getting with me and setting up the dates and I'd seen the him before because he worked on my washing machine in my other house through another kind of warranty. The oven is working fine now. The only problem is now the light's not working in the refrigerator and it'd be another 80 bucks to get him to come. I don’t want to spend 80 bucks to get the light in the freezer fixed and it'd be nice if there was just no co-pay.

There was an electric fire alert on the hot water tank and then there was a timer that also caught on fire. Someone from Cook’s Craftsmen came out and put in a new switch. He was really helpful and he did a fantastic job. I also had Plumb Genius come out and I was not impressed at all. It took a week for everything to actually take place. Then both of my hot water tanks went because the breaker kept on popping. An electrician came out and found that whenever Plumb Genius was installing the new hot water tank, they were putting in screws right into one of the wires. That was two months ago and we had no idea. And the electrician said that could have caused a huge fire. They could have burnt down my house.
I even had Plumb Genius out two days ago and they could not find the issue. Then I contacted customer service and I talked to Kristal who was extremely rude. I was trying to make sure that the electrician and the plumber came out at the same time and get it resolved. But she was real short and rude. I would not recommend them to anyone. On the other hand, American Home Shield was wanting to charge me another service fee to check the other hot water tank. It was not a preexisting issue but it was something that was going on. I didn’t think that was really fair but that’s the only one that I was disappointed on. Otherwise, everybody has been really pleasant whenever I’ve called.

I have been with American Home Shield since September 2017. It has been a wonderful experience with them over those years and I recommend them to everybody. They were prompt and courteous and they understood that things happened. Our stove broke. The heating element under the main or the top was going out. American Home Shield was fantastic. They brought me a new stove and it was all done. However, there was something defective with the one that was brought to me and so I was trying to get it replaced. Since it is a brand new stove, it is still under warranty via the factory. However, I’ve been dealing with it for about a month now.

My microwave was working but the display wasn’t functioning, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was very easy. I called and the rep she seemed to really know what the process was. I was concerned because it was the first time I’ve ever had to use it and so, she reassured me that one way or the other, I would be taken care of and the claim would be handled. The contractor was in touch with me within 24 hours and they did the work about two weeks later. He was professional, on time and he walked me through the process, and did exactly what he said he would. The quality of their work was excellent and my experience with American Home Shield had felt much, much better than I expected. Since then, I’ve definitely recommended American Home Shield to friends and family. I’m just upset as I wonder what took me so long to sign up for this service.
