The air-conditioner unit was making a noise and it cut off. At first, I submitted the claim online and AHS' website was okay. I also had to call because the person that I had talked to said that it would take three or four days before they could get somebody out. The technician came when he said he would and fixed it. He was polite and was there about 30 minutes or less and had the part. The fall-down on it was when the original company that called said that they wouldn’t be able to get somebody out ‘til three or four days. I wanted to change the appointment to somebody else. In the meantime, she hired another tech, although there was a little confusion for about 24 hours that he was gonna be able to take the call.

It took a day and a half for them to come out, but for a whole 24 hours, I didn’t know if they were coming or not. My husband was with the tech and it went well because he had the part to fix it with and we were impressed with that. The unit was fixed a couple of hours ago, so it’s working now. We were extremely satisfied with the experience. Having a warranty on our property is very valuable and this is the second time we’ve used it. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I typically submit my claims online with American Home Shield and it is super easy. The technicians that they've sent out have been great as well. I recently filed a claim for my AC unit and the guys from Ace Heating who came out were fantastic. The claim was a simple valid issue but they were there to clean up the mess made by another company that was contracted by American Home Shield. And by the time that Ace got out there I knew what the problem was. There wasn’t a whole lot for them to do other than to take care of the issue.

There was a problem with the lock on my door and I got very unsatisfied with the contractor that American Home Shield sent. He came in the house but I misplaced a new piece of the lock, so he told me that he couldn’t do anything without it and walked out. The contractor charged me $75 but they haven't been out since. I called AHS and they said it would be another $75 for the contractor to come out. But the other people that AHS sent were outstanding. The tech came in and fixed the washing machine. We also never had a problem with the air conditioning, the microwave and the oven. I still like AHS, they have been good to me and I'd recommend them to everybody.

The fan on the air conditioning unit on our rental went out and I sent a claim through American Home Shield’s website. I loved it because we have the policy on our rental and on our home, and the website gave me those options. I was able to file a claim for the rental right away and it was the kind of service that I needed as I didn’t have to call and be on the phone. The contractor that they sent was very professional and friendly. He came right away, explained everything and did his job really well. Since then, the unit is working wonderfully. I really enjoyed my experience with American Home Shield. They were all prompt and got people out here. It is best to have AHS.

I had two claims with American Home Shield in the last three months, but the most recent one was when my refrigerator broke. The technicians came on time and were very respectful people. They checked the ref but couldn't repair it. They also told me that having it fixed would cost more than spending on a new refrigerator so we had to get a new one. Since then, everything was good. I've recommended AHS to a lot of people including all of my customers because it's really convenient for any household.

I had issues with my microwave and refrigerator. I went online to file my claim with American Home Shield and it was easy to navigate through their website. Then, I got a response within 24 hours and the tech they sent was awesome. He was knowledgeable and very personable. He initially reset the component of my microwave and installed something new. Then the microwave was working. Next, he worked on my refrigerator. He told me that there was a problem with a compressor and he would have to return for the replacement. When he returned with the compressor and fixed my refrigerator, I told him that the microwave was only working some of the time. So, he replaced the switches in it. Now, both appliances are doing great.

I submitted the claim for repair online and navigating through the website and its user-friendliness were fine. The contractor came out the next day. Everything has been performing fine since the repair and the ballast works. I like having a warranty on my property and I'd tell a friend to do it with American Home Shield.

He knew what was wrong with our air conditioner and we had the unit fixed as he had an extra thermostat in his truck. The air-conditioner has been working fine since the repair and it was a good deal. In fact, the wife said that the warranty was only good for six months but she extended it for another year. A different guy is coming to do another deal this Thursday and I hope it goes like that one did. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

The icemaker that wasn’t working in the refrigerator so I went online and filed a claim to American Home Shield. When I called them, the reps were helpful and understanding and the contractors took a couple of attempts to figure out what the actual problem was. They told us what they were doing each time and what it was supposed to do. Finally, in the last attempt, we got it working and they did a good job. They have to work within certain parameters for each time they come out on the calls and claims but for what they had to do, it was fine. Depending on the comfort level with the home that people are buying and their personal situation, AHS is a good investment.

AC not working (80-90 degree weather). Called order in on 5/3/18. They did great and had a repairman out the next day on 5/4/18. Same problem later that night. I called the repair Co. Best Way Mechanical who was back out next day 5/5 and determined it needed a part. Service from both companies downhill since!! We left several messages for Best Way from 5/11 - 5/17 with no return call. I called AHS on 5/18 to inform of delay and request a new HVAC vendor. Was on hold 45 minutes before anyone answered! Rep was pleasant enough and advised she was having computer issues.

An hour later she made contact with a Best Way Supervisor and told me the part was ordered 5/10 and had arrived that day 5/18. They were waiting for AHS’ authorization. The AHS rep told me they were sending auth and the repair would be finalized on Monday 5/21. Best Way Mechanical called my husband on 5/21 to advise we’d have to pay $1200 towards the repair. He immediately contacted AHS for explanation of authorized amt. and denial reasons. They made mention of a “coil” to be installed and some “code upgrades” needed that are not covered.

When my husband questioned the amount we’d owe the rep suggested we take a “cash out” which is the amount AHS would pay and we could then use that to pay toward the repair directly using our own selected vendor. We received a voice mail message on 5/23 that the “cash out” would be $330. I called AHS on 5/24 and experienced yet another hold of 30 minutes before reaching a rep. I asked for a WRITTEN itemized repair estimate along with AHS’ authorized payment amt. and denial explanation for each line item.

Unbelievably, I spoke with 3 people during this call who told me they had no way to give me anything in writing. The last person was a “Denial Specialist” who again verbally itemized the covered part and the denied parts. I stopped him at that point and again DEMANDED a WRITTEN list of the recommended repairs and how much AHS would pay for each line item with an explanation if not fully covered. He again stated they had no way to print out anything to send to me. He mentioned the “authorization department” could but then said he was going to call Best Way Mechanical for a hard copy and would call me right back. By now, these conversations have gone on from 7:15pm when 1st placed the call to 8:15pm when this last call ended.

It is now 2 days later on Saturday 5/26 with no return call from AHS! I left a message for Best Way Mechanical today and called AHS again. After holding for 5 minutes, all reps were still busy so I hung up to try and follow up online. Found this review site and hoping I can get a response from AHS this way. We have been with AHS for 20+ years. They have denied some repairs and paid some repairs over the years. We’ve not requested a written explanation before because those were minor repairs denied and it only involved one part (e.g. refrigerator ice maker not covered, replacing a faucet not covered).

The problems with this MAJOR repair is threefold: We have no choice in vendors. AHS does not give options and only sends the “one” repair company out. A WRITTEN estimate of repairs and a WRITTEN authorization / denial for each line item is not too much to ask for such a major repair. This is actually a standard business practice and I shouldn’t even have to ask for something in writing when I’m expected to fork over $1200 or more. Not understanding why AHS can’t support their authorization/denial decisions “in writing.” The long wait time (30+ minutes) when calling for follow-up on a pending service order is unacceptable.

We still need a written breakdown to better understand and research the problem(s) identified, repair charges quoted and covered amounts per our agreement. This is simply prudent. This is not rocket science, AHS! It is hot (80-90 degrees)!!! Please forward the written documents ASAP so we can move forward with repairs and get this behind us. We’ve recommended you to a lot of people in the past but no more! This is absolutely unreal and unacceptable!!!

I would like to preface this review by stating that I’ve only written a handful of reviews in my life, both good and bad. I would also like to add that I spent my early years working in retail so my patience with customer service and the service industry in general is fairly high as I’ve been on the receiving end of many angry and rude customers. With that being said, the customer service I have received from American Home Shield has been so horrendous that it’s made me sit down and write a review, something I don’t do. So here is my situation and as of right now, nothing has been done.

My hot water ceased to be hot 2 weeks ago. I went and inspected the water heater and to no surprise, as the house is older, it was broken. That was on Sunday 5/13. Monday morning, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. As with other transactions in the past a customer service rep assigned me a third-party contractor, NW Sundance Services, and charged me $75 for the claim (standard). The following day, Tuesday 5/14, a rep from NW Sundance Services reached out to schedule the inspection. The earliest they could schedule me was for Friday 5/18. Three more days without hot water? Sure, not a big deal, I went weeks without showers when deployed to Afghanistan. NW Sundance Services gives me an 8 AM - 12 PM window of service.

I stay home from work. At 11:28 AM the rep from NW Sundance Services calls to inform me that no one would be coming out today as “their guy is busy”. I understand that some jobs end up taking longer than others… But you are telling me that you had appointments earlier than 8: AM? Nope. The rep tells me they can re-schedule for Monday 5/21 between 8 AM - 12 PM. I politely thank the rep and decline. While talking to the rep I did a quick a review search of NW Sundance Services and they are apparently notorious for this. I’m not going to waste another day. Time to call American Home Shield.

I call American Home Shield and explain the situation. The customer service rep is apologetic and works to find an alternate contractor. To my surprise she does. While this is great it is also where things start to go bad. She informs me that I will need to pay another $75-dollar fee for the visit. I explain to her that I had already done this. I paid you for a service, you did not deliver the service. She’s have a hard time grasping this. I end up paying another $75 with her guaranteeing that I would be reimbursed. So far I’m now $150 in the hole and not a single person has even looked at my water heater. She informs me that the contractor will be at the house between 4 PM - 7PM. Contractor calls at 7:30 PM to tell me he is on the way. I’m fine with this as at least someone is coming.

Contractor spends about 2 minutes looking at water heater and sump pump before declaring that the water heater would need to be replaced. Right. I know. He informs me that he will submit the order to American Home Shield and once approved he would install and remove the old one. He’s hopeful that could be as early as the next day, Saturday 5/19. This is great news.

About mid-morning Saturday, 5/19, I call to check in, mainly to plan my day around a potential hot water heater installation. Contractor informs me that they submitted the claim and if I wanted to I could check with American Home Shield. I thank them for their time and call American Home Shield. The rep informs me that they did indeed receive the order but there would be some additional out of pocket expenses due to some specific WA codes (earthquake straps). I ask if they could please send me that invoice.

The rep tells me she can’t and I would have to get that from the contractor. Weird. She also tells me that no one is in the office to approve the work order over the weekend. I then call the contractor and they assure me they will send the invoice. The invoice is emailed to me at 10 PM that Sunday, 5/20. The invoice is 100$ more than the invoice that American Home Shield Received.

Monday 5/21 I call American Home Shield and ask about the discrepancies in invoices. They assure me this is not okay and will be taken care of. I’m then put on hold to speaking with escalation department. I’m on hold for 40 minutes before I am then hung up on. Tuesday 5/22 I call American Home Shield and reintroduce the discrepancies in invoices. The rep tells that they will reach out to the contractor to resolve the issues and will get back to me. Wednesday 5/23. No word from American Home Shield or contractor. Thursday 5/24. No word from American Home Shield or contractor. Friday 5/25. No word from American Home Shield or contractor.

Saturday 5/26 I call American Home Shield for an update. The rep informs me that it shows that I’ve declined service. I explain entire situation to rep. She checks and informs me that the parts are on order. I ask about the invoice. She puts me on hold to call the contractor. She returns to tell me that “the contractor doesn’t know”. I ask for an explanation and she says that she’ll reach out to the contractor via email, again, to contact me about the discrepancies (didn’t you just tell me you talked with them?). I ask rep when I will hear back from American Home Shield/the contractor on an actual date and time when my water heater will be fixed. She informs me that due to the weekend, there is no one here to approve the work order and that I will probably hear on Tuesday 5/29.

*I’ve asked to speak to a manager on every single one of these calls and I am told there is no manager. I’ve never asked to speak to a manager in my entire life. Today is Saturday 5/26 and it looks like I will be entering week 3 of no hot water and nowhere near a solution or even an answer. Don’t use American Home Shield if you want a problem resolved.

My dishwasher wasn’t running and I asked American Home Shield for a repair and it took about two days to get somebody out here. This company had come out for my washing machine and they’ve always been professional. Their technician had ordered parts but the parts were obsolete so I was told to go look for the dishwasher. I got the AHS authorization to purchase the dishwasher and it’s being delivered this Saturday. The call hold time with AHS was unbearable though. I had a call for about 22 minutes just to get through to the replacement department twice. Then one time, the rep gave me the wrong email address, so I just mailed my claim for the replacement in last week. But AHS has been great and I’ve never had to hold that long for anything else. I’ve been with them for about seven years now and I recommend them to everybody.

They picked a good contractor who called and we set up an appointment. Their guy came promptly and fixed the AC within 15 minutes, and it's been working fine ever since.

He knew what he was doing and went right to it. He also gave me some pointers on some other things as well. For example, there was a dehumidifier in the house and he explained to me how it worked and how to set it so that it wouldn’t interfere with the air conditioning. He said that once a person like him comes to the house, anytime you call on his company for air conditioning problems, you'll always get the same technician, which is not true with a lot of other companies. That’s good because he then knows what has been done in the past and he's familiar with your system. Working with AHS was very a good experience.

We needed some plumbing work and the first plumber that AHS sent out didn’t do half the work that he was supposed to. The sink in the bathroom was leaking and the faucets were corroded at my husband’s house as well as my sister’s and mine. He kept saying it was not covered and AHS wrote a letter to me and said the same thing. At that point, I didn’t wanna go ahead and pay another $75 because he didn’t do anything. AHS finally sent another plumber who was excellent and he noticed that none of the work was completed. We then were able to get one brand new toilet. They were replaced because the man who came over there to do the work had no hesitation. But the first plumber who came didn’t replace them nor did he call American Home Shield and tell them that it needed replacement.

I thought that if a thing is broken, it’s gonna be replaced. Maybe not with the same item, but with something that maybe is not an older item but close to what was there. The guy did not do it and now the sink is leaking again. Some of the work that was done at my sister’s house and my house was never completed because the first plumber said that they're not gonna do it and they took his word for it and there was clearly a problem there. So now I’m wondering what I’m gonna do. Am I gonna have to hire another plumber to fix what’s leaking that the first guy didn’t fix? I’m going to call and ask them about it and if there is a problem and they can’t do it, I will change.

We have a contract with them then and I began to think if it was really worth it to be paying money on two houses and they’re not really doing the work. My husband has an older air conditioner in his house and we've had AHS purposely because if something like that breaks, it’s $10,000. I was thinking then if they were gonna start saying that they can't repair that. I’m now finding out that if something breaks in your house, it does not necessarily going to be fixed. I’m 70 years old and I’m paying for the service and I’m having trouble with it. So, I’m not happy with American Home Shield right now, we had a bad experience and I would not recommend them.

My drain was backing up in the floor drain and my washer drain, and it ended up needing to be cleaned. I called American Home Shield and I set up the claim through the automated assistant. The process went fine and the contractors that came out were wonderful. Lenny D's Plumbing was very helpful, informative, and they explained everything about what they were doing. I've had them there for a previous issue last year and they were very easy to work with.

However, I didn't have such a good experience last year with my air conditioner issues and I'm still having problems with it. So, I'm gonna be calling again to get service on that. Watson's Heating and Air Conditioning is not the easiest one to work with. I've had to work with them before and I had it requested because I had multiple calls last summer on my air conditioning, I've gotten nowhere with them. I had tried to say I don't want them to come, but that's who they end up calling. This year, it's happening again. When I make my phone calls, I don't want to deal with Watson's anymore because the guy that comes is really a jerk and does not seem to want to figure out what the problem is. When my air conditioning is running, every time it kicks on, periodically the whole time it's running, I get surges to where my lights dim. And then, they come back up and they dim repeatedly. That's hard on appliances like a refrigerator or freezer.

American Home Shield sent out the company multiple times last summer and that's the only one that keeps coming. They even tried to say that it was an electrical issue, so American Home Shield sent an electrician. Then, the electrician said it was not an electrical issue but was an issue with the air conditioner unit. If I didn't have that problem with that company being the one that was sent over and over only, I would be very happy. Nonetheless, I would highly recommend American Home Shield. I've renewed the contract because we bought the house two years ago and on the first year, it was part of the closing deal for buying the house. We'll continue to renew it. It's nice to have the peace of mind.

There was a minor plumbing issue and I went online and filled out a form. Then American Home Shield assigned someone who contacted me to finalize the appointment. I didn’t like the website though. I can only choose one issue and then it locks out the other fields. So, if I have more faucets, I don't know how to flag that and it limits my service calls. And when the guy comes out to do the work, he says that he could have fixed the issue if I have identified it. I wish it was easier and more flexible flagging issues and resolving multiple related problems at the same time. Other than that, my experience recently with the contractor that they sent was very positive. It was the second time that I've worked with this same guy and he was great.

Updated on 06/29/2024: I've continued to renew American Home Shield every year for the last seven years. I've had $1,600 worth of repairs done that cost me a $75 copay. But it's a hit or miss. I had a bad experience with the other vendor so Feel Good AC & Heating came out for my AC unit. They have been to my house three years in a row for an identical issue. It was not blowing cold. The last vendor left a whole thing of freon on the side of the house. I don't even know where to dispose of it ‘cause there’s EPA. They sent a technician that didn't speak English. The original person who came out and quoted me tried to quote me for an entire unit. He said, “I could replace the whole unit. This is $6,000. You could cash out, but you have to either do that or do this.” I had a lot of the vendors try to solicit you for their own business outside of American Home Shield.

We can't have a thorough conversation with the reps or there's an inability to troubleshoot. It always has to be escalated and when I get it escalated, the person who resolves it is not an international call center, so you could be subject to extended holds. Now I need my dishwasher serviced but I can't pick who comes. That's another thing.

Original Review: When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, everything went smoothly. The contractor they sent out was very professional, punctual and knowledgeable. I had actually called my homeowner's insurance 'cause I thought I had a roof leak but what I had was a leak from my water pan from the A/C, and it was exactly what their contractor said it was. Then the repair was quick and he also offered something extra. And the leak is now resolved.

The air conditioner was not blowing cold air several weeks ago. We contacted American Home Shield and the tech came out. He filled it up with the new type of Freon and put in an order for a new compressor. Then, he came back several days later, put the compressor and filled it up with a new type of Freon again. And then a day later, it was making this crazy noise so I shut it down and made another claim. The guy came out and it ran perfectly while the tech was there. A day and a half later, it stopped blowing again and I placed another claim. The guy came out and he said that there was a hole in the copper line that bled all the Freon out and that the fan motor needed a replacement. He replaced the fan motor, fixed the hole and filled it up with Freon. It has been running great ever since. We were talking about replacing it but it's working good so we go and let it keep running as long as there is cold air and doing its job.

The AC not working has happened three times since we bought the house and my wife called it in to AHS all three times. She had an issue during the second time that she called but the first and third was really good because everything went smoothly. All the techs did well, were very communicative, and did what they could. The first guy was very detailed on how he explained things. The second guy seemed experienced but he was just more focused on talking about everything besides the issue. I took time off of my work to be there for that issue and not to hang out and socialize. But he did a good job.

Each one who fixed it, I was smiling in the end. It's just that the second guy should communicate to be focusing on the task and not worry about everything else. It was aggravating on my end to have to make three different claims but all in all, it was a great experience. I was very pleased with the response that American Home Shield had given us every single time. It was excellent. I've recommended American Home Shield to several people.

I was in the process of selling a property and the agent that I contacted talked to me about using American Home Shield to pass on to my buyers. My son had it when he bought his house, so when the agent talked to me about it, I decided to go ahead with it. While I still owned the property, the heater wasn't working correctly. We filed a claim with AHS and my real estate agent took care of all that for me. Upon inspection, the techs found that the thermostat had to be replaced and after the repair, we turned the heater on and everything worked like it was supposed to. When I sell the property where I live now, I'll deeply consider using American Home Shield again. It was a good service. I paid for it to use as a sell tool, but it worked out doubly good for me.

My refrigerator started making noise on a Monday. I usually go online and do my service request. American Home Shield responded within 24 hours, if not sooner. The rep was very professional and was willing to listen to my concerns. The first vendor wasn’t able to come out till about maybe four days and I needed someone out within 24 hours so they found another vendor that was able to assist me with my needs. That was a plus.

The contractor, Big Country Kitchen, was very informative when they came out to let me know what was going on. The technician called me within 30 to an hour out to let me know they were on their way. They were on time. They should be coming back out again to repair it. They had to order the part from the manufacturer so that was my only complaint.

American Home Shield should go down on my monthly premium since I really don’t use all those services. I’m getting ready to renew my contract to look at it to see if there’s really a need for it. But other than that, they provided good service and I haven’t had any complaints with American Home Shield, so far, with the repairs that they’ve had to do. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield, especially for a new home purchase.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a bunch of leaky valves in the bathrooms. The contractor had to come back a couple of times in a week but they got the job done. Speaking with AHS company initially was good, but towards the end, it was poor service. They weren't able to accommodate some issues. There was some coverage that wasn’t covered under that was initially supposed to be covered. They had a grace period over which you cannot be covered, and we were over by about three to four days but it was not my fault as a customer but a fault of the title company that was supposed to set it up or they communicated with directly. The title company cost up what was needed, and then they communicated with them. They said it was all good. Then the coverage was never added, and they refused to add it afterwards. This is after given the amount of time of communicating directly and also then returning the check two or three times.

I didn’t feel as if they were trying to help, trying more solution-oriented versus problem-oriented. They were just kicking down the bucket giving me this, giving me that, and kicking the ball along. I just had to pick up the ball and make some decisions and saying, “This is what I want. This is the kind of service that I need. As a customer, I'm asking you.” They just accommodated for that. Also, they could work on their communication.

In the first time that I called, I told American Home Shield what the problem was and they told me to wait a day or two. They said that the contractor will call me that day or the next day to let me know when they'd be able to come. I waited a day until the next day, but nothing happened. So, on the third day, I called again and spoke to a very nice lady from American Home Shield. I told her that I called the other day and asked for service. She looked it up and said that there was nothing in there and that there was no record that I called. I said, “Oh, my God. I’m having problems with the pump and you mean to tell me nobody recorded.” I told her I've been waiting for three days and I needed my swimming pool working. The pump was not working.

And she said that she’ll make sure that I will get the service done and that somebody will be calling me. I asked what will assure me that they will do it when the other person didn’t do it when I called two days ago. She said that she’ll make sure to do it and that if I wanna call back and verify, I can. She did a good job because the people from Pool Buddies called me the same day in the afternoon and told me they were coming the next day.

They came the next day and I told them what the problem was. It was the same problem that I had before, the pump. They went ahead right away and fixed the pool. They were very nice. I love those people. The last time I called Pool Buddies, both of the guys were very nice -- Robert and Charles. They were very satisfactory. The unit is working good now. Having a warranty on our property is very good. One time, I left American Home Shield and changed, but I went back to them because I really like them.

American Home Shield worked on the oven for the third time because I had filed a claim for it and paid $100 for the guy to come out, but he didn't fix it. They sent out another tech who also didn't fix it. So then, when my ice maker went out, they were gonna send out a separate company whom I asked if they could check the oven while they were here and the technician did. I sweet talked him so much and told him that no one else had ever been able to do it and so he cared enough to try to fix it.

But before that, I was pretty upset because AHS told me that unless one of the techs could figure out what was wrong, then they were not gonna do anything. We've been trying to get the oven fixed for six months which was a crushing experience. We were not even using the oven because when I turned it on, it was so loud. We were using our toaster oven for about anything and everything. So although the oven was covered, we were told that the noises weren’t. One of the techs even said that he didn't hear a problem. I've had multiple ovens in my life and this is the Bosch which was supposed to be one of the quietest lines of appliances.

Something was loose in the back. The technician pulled the whole oven out and was able to tighten it. It worked for a few days and then it started making the noise again, so I called. He came back to install the ice maker that he had ordered. Then he pulled the oven out and tightened it again, and it hasn't made that noise since. I reached out to his company and I gave him a glowing review. One of the guys even sent around $500 for replacing the fan but it didn't do anything because there was nothing wrong with the fan.

The experience of submitting the claim was awful too. When I was signing up for this warranty, every time I called to get information, a salesperson would pick up in two seconds, but once I was a customer and I wanted to file a claim or talk to anybody about what was going on with my oven, I would wait on hold for 30 minutes to get through to someone which was why I had given up and thought of canceling the home warranty and putting the money inside to pay someone to fix it on our own because then, they couldn’t take my money without fixing the issue.

Recently, I filed a claim for my refrigerator. Both the refrigerator and the oven are fine now. However, two of the knobs are broken, one of which was broken before the repair, and the warranty said that they wouldn't cover it. The tech was nice enough to look it up for us though and told us that we could order and pay $100 for a whole new set of knobs so we told them to forget it. It wasn't worth it to me since these are just cheap, plastic knobs that have a little piece on the inside that holds the tension which fell off.

I'm concerned that the only reason I even kept the home warranty was that they gave me a new ice maker which did a couple of weird things within the first week of being replaced. It was shaking the door and making a noise but then it stopped doing it. I was also told how many things it would cover like HVAC and our oven which are expensive appliances. We just bought this house a year ago and didn't want to have to repair all these things because they're all coming on 10 years old that's why we bought the home warranty but it’s not really good insurance if they're not gonna fix it when I call them.

He also pointed out where we needed to close up some things and to protect ourselves. We had rain a couple of weeks ago and my husband went up and monitored it and it was all taken care of. It was $75 well spent even though we didn’t really have a serious issue. We’ve convinced our mother-in-law to get AHS and everyone should have them too.

It took quite a while to try to repair the refrigerator. We had to wait so long we bought another refrigerator. Sears kept trying to repair the refrigerator but they couldn’t find the problem. American Home Shield decided not to put any more money into it that they paid us the refrigerator we bought. AHS does exactly what they say. They’re a good company to work with. We had back-to-back issues. One of them was the water heater then it was immediately followed by the air conditioning. We called American Home Shield to have someone come out and take a look at the heater as we didn't have any hot water. The gentleman who came out told us that it was a breaker issue but told American Home Shield that we had a leaky water heater and it was necessary to replace the entire thing. So, that was a little frustrating.

American Home Shield told us that we could have somebody else come back out and get a second opinion. However, if that person's opinion was the same as the first, we would pay an additional $75 charge. If that person said that it was something different then we wouldn’t pay that $75 charge. We opted not to have anybody come out. Instead we had somebody else that we knew would take a look at it. He ended up changing the thermostat and it really, honestly, miraculously just started working as soon as he left. So it was really odd that the guy who first came said that we needed to replace the whole thing.

The air conditioning was just freezing up and it wasn’t working. American Home Shield sent Air Smith Pro out. The guy told us that we needed Freon. Then he went to American Home Shield and told us that they need to replace the air handler and we weren’t aware of that when that person was here. It seems like there was some disconnect between the people and what they tell us and what they tell American Home Shield. We upgraded and redid the whole thing inside and out since it was an old system from 1991. We could replace the entire unit for a little more money to the cost to replace the air handler so we opted for that. We’re in the middle of doing their cash-in-lieu program. We went with a different company than who they sent out here. We just sent them proof that we had a licensed contractor do the work and then they would give us like cash in lieu for what they would have paid Air Smith Pro to fix it.

We've been with American Home Shield for six years now and so far, we really didn’t have any issues. These were the two first glitches in using them -- the water heater guy didn’t seem knowledgeable. We were not really too impressed with that company. Air Smith Pro wasn't bad, however, they didn’t have any financing option available so we went with another company that did.

American Home Shield is a good organization. I called them for the circuit breaker on my furnace that had been fried in and then melted a wiring harness. The AHS rep took the information down and then provided me with the local organization that was gonna come out and fix it. I called them and they set up an appointment time and they came out and diagnosed the problem.

They weren’t sure whether or not they could actually find the part and the wiring harness since the furnace is about 30 years old. They went to a couple of different supply houses and they were able to get the original equipment manufacturer which is Carrier. They found the circuit board and the wiring harness in three days. Then they came back and replaced the parts. They tested the furnace and ran it at about 20 minutes and now everything works perfect. If I didn’t have the warranty, it would’ve cost several hundred dollars to replace the circuit board, like $400 - $800. The wiring harness is not that expensive but I pay a rate every month plus a service fee when they come out.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was fine and I had no problem with it but it took them two different companies and five different technicians to fix my air system, which was totally ridiculous. The fourth guy who came out said that they put too much Freon in. Then, the fifth guy took some out and it has been working, although I don’t know how long it's gonna hold up. I also had to pay $700 to replace the Freon and tried to charge me on one of them so I’m not too happy with them nor thrilled with AHS at all.

AHS fixed my dishwasher and my icemaker and I had no problems there except that they ordered the dishwasher part and it had been sitting there for about two weeks or more. Finally, I called them and asked where the part they were waiting on was and they said that they got it right there in the warehouse and would get them out immediately. They had the part there but they didn’t do anything about it. But as far as them scheduling and getting the technician out here, that has been good. Their problem was with getting somebody out here who knows what they’re doing.

Updated on 06/24/2018: I cannot express to you enough how dissatisfied I am with your company. I feel like my $50.99 that I am paying you every month is nothing but a big waste of money. I have had eight technicians out to my house to try to fix my central air conditioning. First, you sent three technicians from United Air Temp. Then, you sent three more technicians from a totally different company, Total Air Care. You write me an email/Consumer Affairs response saying you will refund the $700 I’ve paid to the first company, United Air Temp. I have received the check, but I will not cash it because it states that you will no longer be responsible for repair on my central air conditioning. This is what I pay you every month for so you will be getting your check back and if I do not get my central A/C fixed, and fixed properly, I will see you in Circuit Court. I am not messing around with this problem anymore. It is hot in Florida with no AC.

After sending out eight technicians and getting no satisfactory results, I would think that AHS would go ahead and replace the system. However, I feel that all you are going to do is nickel and dime it to death and keep sending out unqualified and inadequate technicians. The last technician, number eight, said there was nothing wrong with my unit. How can that be when the thermostat is set on 78 and it reads 82 in the house? I am telling you if you don’t hop on this problem and get it fixed and get it fixed quickly, I will see you in court.

I was having a hard time getting my AC fixed and even getting a hold of the company American Home Shield arranged service with. I called AHS to see if they could provide further assistance. The company, A-US Air Cond of Texas Ltd, only gave me the date, not time, of my appointment. I needed some sort of notice to give my employer. By the day before, I had yet to hear back from the AC company (even though I tried numerous times to contact them - they have their own issues). I decided to see if AHS could help.

They put me on hold to "look into it." After being kept on hold for over 30 min (elevator music & all), they dropped my call! I immediately called back. Of course, a different person answers announcing that they are having computer issues and the only thing she could help me with is taking a payment (convenient, right?). I told her about what had happened and she transferred me to someone who wasn't having computer issues. After another 10 min wait, I was connected to someone else who said they were having issues and could only take payments at the moment. I told her what had happened and she said all I could do is call back in an hour to see if the computers were up and running again.

I did call back an hour later. All they did was call the AC company (like I had done over and over that day) and confirm that they were not answering their phone. So beside the fact that they couldn't even get in contact with the AC company they were making me use, they didn't seem to care about the position I was in. I was told that if the AC company fell through, I would have to be put on another wait list to get my AC looked at by another company. Of course I could always pay out-of-pocket with a different company (that needed to be on their approved list) and they would reimburse me, but I had already waited almost a week (in Texas heat) for this appointment and had paid my service fee.

While I acknowledge this was not AHS fault, I called them to dispute this charge and they said they would look into it and call me back and/or update my account to get a credit issued. A week later and no phone call. Upon calling in I had to re-explain my situation and then found that they had never reached out to the contractor to confirm and have them change the status from completed to cancelled. The rep kept telling me that I had a service scheduled, therefore I had to tell her again it was, but it never took place and they should have reached out and confirmed this to then provide me with a credit.

She then asked me to confirm the contractor came to my house… clear sign that she was not listening to a word I said. I once again told her the situation, she then told me she would call them to confirm it was cancelled and would be right back. Shocker… She hung up on me and never called me back. Pretty crappy customer service to hang up on someone and never call them back, even though you just confirmed my callback number 2 minutes prior. I am now having to do the leg-work to call the contractor, have them confirm it was cancelled and request them to contact AHS to update the status, then call AHS back to confirm when my credit will be issued.

AHS is unable or unwilling to send a trained tech to repair my induction cooktop since 4-3-18, that is now over 3 weeks. The first company they picked was not qualified, the second - an expert according to AHS came and asked "what is this". After explaining what and how an induction cooktop is, the tech took model number and info for the USA part service of my European cooktop and left. 3 weeks later and a million of lies, hours of phone calls and a vanishing tech and unresponsive AHS, my cooktop is still not repaired, even the part is readily available via the parts service and would ship overnight. There are techs in the service area that can repair the part but AHS is unwilling to contact them, even nobody of their network is obviously able to diagnose an induction cooktop. This is a breach of contract as I paid my annual fee, but AHS does nothing for me. I have no cooktop since over 3 weeks and AHS does not care at all.

I called to make a claim on May 9 for a problem with our washer... It took over a week for someone to call us back and tell us that they were too far away. Would not respond. We then waited another two weeks for someone else to come out who never showed up. It is now 3 1/2 weeks and we still do not have a washer and dryer. I called American Home Shield this morning from two separate from lines. I waited over an hour and 10 minutes on one and a half Hour on the other. People put me on hold and never comeback. Will be contacting an attorney next I guess. Taking our money and getting no service.

May 14th: Promise "We will call you tomorrow to let you know how we are going to fix your problem"... Today is May 24th... The only call I've received was from AHS' social media team to ask me how to handle my problem. I do not have a "social media problem". I have a problem, that is supposed to be handled by AHS, since I paid for the "home shield warranty" when I bought my house. I did NOT buy a "social media". AHS has a "social media problem" since I've been posting on social media about their lack of response to my problem... Back in May 14th.

My response to AHS was: "Not sure why you need a "Social Media Specialist", to address my issue. You need to have someone call me 3... and someone to come and fix the appliance. Both the techs you sent, and myself know what is wrong with the appliance." As I said tonight is May 24th... 10 DAYS LATER. I looked up the companies they sent to service our issues and they were ALL below 2 stars (out of 5) on Yelp... I WILL NEVER USE AHS EVER again. I am so frustrated that I actually took 30 minutes out of my time to set-up an account with Consumer Affairs and share my experience, instead of just letting it go and watching a movie.

I filed claims with American Home Shield for my dishwasher and refrigerator. I called in and set up the claims for both appliances. The claims representative that I spoke with was professional, considerate, and she worked on my claims quickly. The contractor was polite, professional, and thorough. But I had a small problem after the service and I have to call American Home Shield eventually about the issue because it has becoming annoying.

The technician repaired the dishwasher and the refrigerator, and he had to replace a panel for both the dishwasher and the ice maker in the refrigerator. After he replaced the panel in the dishwasher, the dishwasher was working. But inside the dishwasher, there’s a little door that I can open and close to put the pod in. It used to be that once I started the process for the dishwasher, this door opened on its own to release the pod. But now, this door sticks all the time and the dishwasher is not opening it. I can open the door manually but it doesn’t pop open anymore when the dishwasher is on. Other than that, however, everything else has been fine.

AHS is great and I like them. I always call in for claims and I’ve never had to wait more than a day for them to get somebody out to us. We had some plumbing issues where my cupboards, it was just leaking downstairs. There’s like overflow in the top, in that little silver thing, it was just not tight there so the AHS contractor put a new gasket in. It was literally like a ten minute job and he was out. The guy was super cordial. Overall, I love AHS. I’ve gotten my money back each and every time I’ve used this. It works out. As long as we can afford it, I’ll keep buying it. I never see myself leaving. It really helps us a crazy deal.

There was an issue with my water heater and I called American Home Shield. They sent somebody out and he was in my house for about five minutes. I explained that we had to continually restart the hot water heater but he told me that it started right out so, it was the only thing that he could diagnose at that point and that I had to go through the company again if it went out. I wasn’t very happy about that because we have had to previously restart it about 10 times before the guy was able to come out. It took him several days before I was able to get somebody out there. A couple of days later, the water heater went out again. So, AHS wanted to send the same guy back out but I didn’t want the same guy to come back out as he didn’t do anything the first time. Also, I asked to be transferred to a supervisor but they told me that they couldn’t do that.

So, AHS had the same guy call me and he told me that it was going to be two to three days before he could make it out. It was not acceptable, so I called somebody on my own, paid for them to come out and they felt that something with the thermals needed to be replaced and that it was gonna cost me about $600. So I called American Home Shield and finally got somebody that was able to help me who told me that they would send a different company. This was actually after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. So, AHS sent another company out but the water heater was running at the time that their tech was there. So, he told me that there was nothing that he could really do but that it sounded like there was something definitely going on.

He told me that I probably needed exactly what the independent company that I hired earlier had diagnosed it with. He also told me that if it doesn’t work, then I’m probably gonna need a new water heater. So, my hot water heater ran for about 10 days and then I called AHS again because it went out on Sunday and this company came right out the next day and replaced a part on it. I'm pleased with this company but American Home Shield’s process of business was not acceptable to me. My experience with American Home Shield has not been a good one, I would not use them again and I would not recommend them.

My mom and I bought this house together in 2005. For about three years, we had a different company and then we went to American Home Shield. For a long time, it was under my mom’s name until she passed away. I’ve had the warranty for a long time and at this point, I wish the price of the service didn’t go up, but I feel like in the long run it’s paid for itself. They send people that are experienced and know what they’re doing. They always clean up and I have no issues. Submitting a claim with AHS has been much better than it used to be. It used to take quite a while to get an appointment or get a callback. The last few times I called, it’s been very quick. The only thing is sometimes it’s Friday afternoon and when I put it in, it’ll be Monday. But I always get contacted. And lately they’ll come out within a day or two, depending on your schedule.

Recently, I had two separate issues. One of them was for my pool and my pool man said that a piece in the motor was broken and that’s why it wasn’t working but when I had the contractor come out from American Home Shield, they said it wasn’t that. It was an issue with the Kreepy Krauly. They were able to do the repairs for the pool right away. The tech had his part and he carried other parts with them and they fixed it. Since the repair the pool has been running very well and it makes me happy. Then not too long after that, I had an issue where water was just leaking out through the backwash drain even when it wasn’t supposed to be. They came out and it was just an O-ring that needed to be changed. They changed it and that was it.

Also, I had to get my microwave replaced not too long ago because it couldn’t be fixed. AHS sent me a list of all the ones I could choose from, and there were some upper models that I would have had to pay a little more for, in addition to what they covered. But I picked one of their models and I had to contact them because I didn’t know what kind exactly I needed to get, like with the venting. They explained it to me and they were really nice. They also came in and installed it. Overall, I’m very satisfied with AHS.

Our most recent American Home Shield claim was for the pool pump. They just changed out a leaking seal on it. Prior to that was a refrigerator claim. I called and then they set up an appointment with the technician from a company locally to come out and take a look at it. The technician was honest and said it was gonna take a long time to get the part because they don’t have them in stock in Hawaii. They had to order a compressor. Instead of just replacing a $2500 refrigerator, they gave me what it would cost for the part of the compressor, the freight, and the service to install it.

They called and gave me two options. One option was to give us the $100 toward a small refrigerator to get us by for several weeks before the part arrives and the other one was to give me the part and install price which was $1000 less than what we paid for the other refrigerator. With my wife’s situation, we had to go for the second option. My wife has liver failure and has certain medications and food that need to be refrigerated so one of those little bitty refrigerators wouldn’t work.

I had heard from other people that when they had something that couldn’t be repaired and the timespan for replacement parts has a very long wait time, American Home Shield would come up with a replacement cost of what you have so you didn’t have to settle for something less. I was surprised that they didn’t cover the cost of a new refrigerator versus a compressor. So we ended up going to Sears and just had to buy a cheaper one. They were gonna give us $1500 and I found one that was $1400 and something. They required me to send the receipt to them before they cut a check. They even reduced what they were gonna give me to what I paid for the replacement. If I had known that, I would have gotten the extended warranty. So we went from a Seas Pro down to just a basic refrigerator. But so far, I’ve been very pleased to work with American Home Shield.

I got a call from a gentleman at All in One Appliance Repair to schedule the appointment the next day. He showed up on time, he was very friendly and professional and asked us what was going on. We knew a glass had broken in there and he took the dishwasher apart, quickly showed us the broken glass pieces, put the dishwasher back together quickly and made sure that it would run. He started it and waited a few minutes to make sure everything was good. He was here 15 minutes and the job was very simple and easy. Then he gave us his card and told us to give him a call or let American Home Shield know if something happens. Since the repair, everything has been going great.

In the first claim that we ever put through, which was for our dryer, the technician came out and he fixed the loose belt. But then we had another issue where the dryer kept cutting off. The same nice young guy came out and said we needed to get our vents cleaned because something was clogging and the dryer was getting too hot. But we did a lot of research and the problem was the electric system on top because we were able to run the dryer as long as we use the timed dry. But if we use any other function, it cuts off which tells me it was not what he said it was. But I didn’t let American Home Shield know that the dryer wasn’t completely working like it should. We have to pay American Home Shield $125 plus, the monthly amount, so I need to figure out in the long run if I’m really saving money. But in terms of service, American Home Shield has been great.

My recent claim with AHS was for my spa. Initially, submitting a claim was frustrating, cloggy and slow. I felt like nobody had an understanding what my real situation was. After going up the hierarchy with American Home Shield, I got a fantastic treatment. The AHS representative was absolutely terrific even though there were a lot of delays and back and forths. She was an incredibly sensitive individual who did a great job on the technical end. She really ought to be running the company.

I've got the pool pump and the pool cleaner scheduled 7 days a week at certain times. But ever since the spa was here, it would come on intermittently. It didn't seem that there was any rhyme or reason. The file was broken and told me it wasn’t covered by the warranty. Then they sent somebody out who didn't even go out to look at where the switches were. They told me that it couldn't be warranted because they thought that I had two places to turn the cooling spa on. The only side I have was the one by the motor and it worked.

The initial contractor that came didn’t have his act together. He was very hard to contact and it was almost impossible for him to come out. The first time he did, he came out on a whim and kept telling me about how everything in his life was going badly. And then it seemed like he always didn't have a part or something he was supposed to have so the repair took two weeks. I was worried for his mental health, myself and my spa. Finally, Mary got me into connection with someone else. She saw that the contractor was pretty irresponsible about getting back.

The second contractor that was sent did a good job. The first time he was here, he wasn't able to help me program the spa as I would have liked them. They sent somebody back out to my house and made sure I was contented. But all of a sudden, I couldn’t get the things at heat. I was talking about calling AHS and have someone look at it. I've made one call to the manufacturer and they thought they figured it out but they couldn’t.

Most of the time, when I've filed claims over the phone with American Home Shield, the service provider has come out. I had a problem with my air conditioning unit a month ago and when I filed the claim with American Home Shield, they assigned the repair job to a service provider in my area that was part of their network. The technicians came out to address the problem with my AC unit and they fixed that.

But my AC unit started acting up again last week, so I called that service provider directly and told them that my AC unit was not working because I assumed that the problem this time was associated with the previous work they had done. The technicians came back out to see if the previous work that they performed was faulty, but they determined that it was another issue besides the one that they'd been out here for and worked on before, and they said that they would be back to fix this other AC issue. We set a schedule for them to come out and they did so in a timely manner. They addressed what was wrong this time with the AC unit and they ordered the appropriate parts, and they're scheduled to return with the part and fix the AC unit. I've only had one claim in the past year and American Home Shield has been good.

Their exclusions for replacement are they will not replace a specific brand or color, neither of which is an issue. They have been unresponsive for a week and put up barriers at every turn. I suggest customers look elsewhere. They have small details in their exclusions (which we have not asked them to ignore) and we still get nowhere.

I called customer retention number and told them and they said nothing they can do. Keep calling. So here I sit with no assistance. Waiting on hold with no resolution. This is awful! HELP!!!

Still waiting almost two weeks for repair. I have called the contractor and AHS every day for the past week. Found out the contractor has an F rating with the BBB and does this to all of his calls, yet they still sent him and will not do anything. I cannot even get a status report. I previously used HMS Warranty company and never went more than one day without a call, sometimes repairs with them were complete within hours. I switched to American Home Shield because I read these wonderful reviews. DON'T FALL FOR IT! This is the worst experience I have ever had with a repair.

Again, another miserable experience with AHS. I am suggesting canceling, filing complaints and forward to your friends and family to do the same. I purchased for AHS Warranty the warranty of major systems to cover the house and property for gas, pumping, heater and air conditioning. The system is consider a heat pump, which is air conditioner & heater together. The air conditioner uses electric while the heater use gas. I paid for the AHS warranty in full with a deductible of $125 for each claim/visit.

I had a plumber come out and quote an estimate on correcting the leak. At this point, I decided to go ahead and file with AHS immediately. I also confirm on the phone that this would be cover. That the gas pipes on the back of the house is cover. AHS said YES. In addition, I asked prior to purchasing the warranty too. AHS sent air condition personnel who transferring it to a plumber. Please note the following facts. AHS knew that it was gas leak. AHS too told to send a specialist for a gas leak, prior to air. AHS sent air conditioner instead, who said they could not fix it as he did not the correct pipes. They are galvanized pipes and he did not carry them. AHS needs to send a plumber. Instead, he closed, while AHS informed me that I would need to pay another 125 to have the plumber come out. I said no.

Now they set up another air but I cancel it and ask for the plumber. Again asked if it was cover and told YES again. AHS was covering it. They final was able to get AHS to send a plumber. The plumber said it was outside the fountain so AHS was not going to cover it. AHS said it was expose to the elements so AHS would not cover. The State of Texas that it was not cover. That the pipe going from the meter would not be cover either. Let me make up many reason not to cover it, what they confirm was cover and preapproved as cover. Other fact - no supervisor, no manager or any person in authority is ever available. They refuse to give any phone numbers to corporate headquarters or to the legal departments. They only give address of AHS Legal Department 1524 Hwy 30 E. Carroll, IA 51401.

After several weeks of discussions and involvement of legal services, AHS agreed to send a new plumber for a second opinion evaluation of the toilet at no additional charge. This professional determined that the failures were consistent with normal wear and tear. AHS agreed to replace the toilet under warranty. The repairs were accomplished within a few days of the second opinion.

    Original Review: May 24, 2018

4:30 AM, we are awakened from a sound sleep by a loud sharp noise, followed by the sound of gushing water coming from our bathroom. The tank on the toilet cracked right up the side, completely out of the blue. I turned off the water and cleaned up the mess, then called AHS. I have been a paying customer of theirs for many years and have almost never had to use the service. It took two days before a plumber could come look at the toilet. He said he would need approval from AHS to perform repairs and it could take several days after that.

Later that evening, I get a call from AHS saying that the plumber said the tank did not crack due to "normal wear and tear" but it might have frozen (Hello?!? It is summer in Tennessee!!) or someone leaned hard on it. He said that is the only way it could crack. If someone had leaned on it the crack would start around the bolts or wear the tank and bowl come together. Instead, it goes right up the side. Google "Why toilet tanks crack" and the most common reason is old age (Translate "normal wear and tear").

AHS said my options are to pay the plumber $300+ (In addition to the $75 service fee) to fix the "uncovered repair" or that I could get a second opinion from another company they send out, and pay another $75 service fee. I have asked to speak with a supervisor, but was told it could take 2 days for one to call me back. This is a racket. I have been paying for this service for YEARS only to have them try to weasel out of a repair which is obviously covered in my contract. We are still trying to decide what is our best option, but I am seriously considering telling AHS what they can do with their contract. However my toilet still is not fixed, and that comes first. Don't bother wasting your money on this scam.

I have had an absolutely awful experience with American Home Shield. We called about an issue we were having with our microwave on 4/15/2018. A technician came out to our house on 4/26/2018 letting us know that a part needed to be ordered to proceed with our request. We were told it would take about 5 days for the part to arrive. It took almost three weeks for the part to arrive and we would not have even known unless I called TWICE to inquire on 5/9/2018. They NEVER reached out to us and this needed part was merely sitting in their storage area for days. This is a VERY unorganized company. Their policy has changed and they collect the money upfront and don't care about servicing their customers.

After the part came in, the technician came to our home again on 5/15/2018, and informed us that the part was not helpful in fixing the microwave. He said that the microwave would need to be replaced and we would get a call in 24-48 hours with details on the replacement. After not hearing from ANYONE for 3 days, we called AHS ourselves on Thursday 5/17/2018. They said they would get back to us.

We called Monday morning 5/21/2018, Tuesday morning 5/22/2018 and afternoon and Wednesday and they STILL did not have an answer for us. We were on hold for more than 30 minutes EACH TIME. We were on hold for 30+ minutes on Tuesday and in the end a representative said they would leave a note for someone to call us back. We called to follow up on Wednesday and were hung up on after holding for over 30 minutes. This experience has been very frustrating. A microwave is a very necessary appliance. During this LONG period of time, the microwave has been sitting in our garage after they basically tore it out of the wall. we signed up for AHS hoping that it would make situations like this easier, but it has been SUCH a headache. They never even let you speak to a supervisor. They just take down your information and no one ever calls you back.

Within a day or so, American Home Shield had somebody scheduled to come out to look at it. We were out of town for a couple of days so it was a week before a contractor came out. They scheduled us right away when we got back and then the contractor had to get a part. That was another week to get the part and come back to fix it. My husband talked to the contractor and he seemed very nice. He was quick with what he needed to get done.

Our air conditioner was out and my son told me that if I had taken American Home Shield out, they would have helped me with that. He had it but I hadn't thought about it and so, I thought I’ll just call and get it, and I did. So far, I’ve never called for anything that they haven’t covered. My doorbell broke and I called them to submit the claim and it was very nice speaking with the rep. I know what’s covered and I just tell them what it is and then they’ll assign whoever to it. And then, within a couple of days, they were out here fixing it. Normally, the company that American Home Shield turns it over to contacts me but they didn’t this time. They have contacted the company and I called and set it up. I have no complaints about it and I’ve never had a problem with them. They’ve been excellent in the repairs and they fixed whatever they had come out to fix.

There was one contractor who came out and he was pushing that something would not be covered but we need to do things and I told him no. It was just too shady and I didn’t care for that one. He had a young girl with him and she was doing the writing and I did not feel comfortable. But any other time, AHS has been Johnny-on-the-spot.

I called them for a heating claim and they sent a person who thought that the ducts were loose in the attic and American Home Shield wasn’t going to pay to have those repaired because it was caused by a pest in the attic. I told them that I didn’t have any pests in the attic because I had had it closed off because of birds. And so they sent another person who determined that it was the protective cover that were damaged and not the ducts. The ducts are metal and they weren’t loose. So, we fixed them. But I’m still having a problem. My electric bill has been over 500 and 400 the month before that, and I'd be consulting another company to see what exactly is wrong.

American Home Shield said I'd have to pay a $100 fee for them to come out and I paid that. When the contractor came, he was very nice and he did his job. He said he knew exactly what I needed but he couldn’t complete the work because he didn’t have the part. He told me he was gonna order the part. It took him a long time so I called AHS and they called him back and they said the part hasn’t come in yet but as soon as it's ordered, they'll take it out and put it in. When the part came, the young man came out and fixed it. He was great and everything is working well now. But AHS charged me another $100. I asked them why they charged me again and the lady just told me she just put a claim for it. I shouldn't be charged another $100 since the contractor didn't have the part and they came back. AHS should have contacted them and said I already paid the $100 for them to come out and fix the problem.

The young ladies AHS got answering the phone in customer service don't seem to know where to direct you to or how to solve the problem. I almost dropped them and got another homeowner’s warranty company because every time I called them, it was like going around in circles. Nobody seems to know how to solve the problem. They call themselves solving the problem, and it's not really solving the problem. They're just making the problem worse and I don’t understand that. I work in claims and inquiry. That’s why I know. And I'm like, “This is not the procedure. This is not how this is supposed to go.”

And when the lady said, “Well, I'm gonna file a claim for you,” She went the wrong route and I was concerned. Is this something new or do they have to file a claim because you're inquiring about a certain thing? And then she told me, “Well, don’t worry about it because you won't be charged. I'm gonna take care of it, and I'll send it to where it's supposed to go.” I was thinking she was going to send it to billing. I had no idea she was filing some type of claim. I said, “Well, okay. If this is your policy, I'm just calling to ask the question on why I'm being charged another $100,” and she went from there.

My AC unit was not working. I normally submit claims with AHS online which is very convenient and helpful because I don’t have to wait a long time to talk to someone. But with my AC, I had to speak with someone because they had sent someone out before, and I had to state the situation where the people didn’t do the work, so they had to take that off of my account in terms of me having to pay for a service call. The AHS rep I spoke to was wonderful and the contractor did a great job repairing my AC. AHS was willing to pay for the services that needed to be done in terms of the repair and services.

On the other hand, sometimes, it seems that some of their clauses don’t allow you to get some of the services that you need to have fixed, especially if you’re a new homeowner. They’re covering certain things such as wiring, but they said they wouldn’t cover wiring, so that was the issue for me that now has to be an out-of-pocket expense. But other than that, I’m satisfied with the service that I’ve been receiving from them.

I always get good service from American Home Shield and I've been with them for over eight years. I had an electrical issue and it was my microwave and my ceiling light. I always call in my claims to AHS and it's easier if you deal with a human. The rep was very pleasant as always. They had to send out two contractors because one thing seemed to be a little bit different from the second. Both guys were really good. The first guy fixed all of the electrical issues and did it quickly. He was in and out in 25 minutes. He had to come back the next day with the parts and that time he was in and out in 5. He was very polite and very clean. But he had to call in for the microwave. We thought it was a breaker thing but there was something wrong with the microwave so they had to send out an appliance guy.

While the appliance guy was fixing the microwave, he broke the bulb, which could happen anytime. He fixed the microwave and then came back with the bulb two days later. He was in and out in about 15 minutes. However, we had to warn AHS about the people they send out. For a while, they were sending out this one company and there were a bunch of trickers that worked there. But I called AHS and they dropped that company right away and I never saw them again. Other than that, I recommend the warranty to everybody who gets a new or used home. And half of my friends have them.

Something major on our air conditioner was broken. My husband submitted the claim with American Home Shield, and the repair would cost so much, so the outside and the inside units needed to be replaced and we had to buy some of it. The new air conditioning unit is good, but it's not as good as the one we had. We also had to have the ovens and the dishwasher replaced, and we had to pay a whole lot more to replace what we actually lost.

But we’ve always had good luck with the contractors. Sometimes when the air conditioner is broken and we have no air, if American Home Shield calls out one company and that company tells us they can’t get here for five days, then we call back and they give us another one. American Home Shield handles it pretty well and we have recommend them. People have heard some really bad things about home warranty companies but we've had American Home Shield for years and it's always been really good even though we pay about $1000. But the cost that we save is well worth it.

I put in claims over the phone for American Home Shield as I usually prefer to talk to someone. When I submitted the claim for the spa, the process was easy and it took a few minutes. I prefer Pool Buddy for my spa and pool stuff, so I requested them a couple of times. There was a time a different company was sent and they weren't aware of what had already been taking place so I had to explain it to them. I wasn't happy with their service, not because they were bad but I just know that Pool Buddy knows my system.

I've had Pool Buddy out quite a few times for the spa and each time, the issue was something different. It had been leaking and then the whole spa went completely dead. A tech came out and the leak wasn’t actually fixed like it should have been. Then they found out it was leaking from another part, so I had to have them fix that too. While fixing the first leak, they realized that it was another piece that they would have to order for the other leak. So, I had to do another request to American Home Shield for that. Now, everything seems to be working well.

Every time I work with American Home Shield, it's fantastic. I've had so many issues with my new home and they have been great with getting people out here to fix things. It seems the vendors call quickly after I put in the request, which is nice. I had problems with the dishwasher, and also with the pool and spa a few times. And American Home Shield also sent someone out for the electrical. But it happened to be something that was SRP, so I had to call the electrical company and they fixed it. Having American Home Shield is the best thing I've ever done and I'm gonna renew every single year.

My over-the-stove microwave went out and te serviceman American Home Shield sent out was great. He checked it out and said that there was too much wrong with it for the parts and that they would have to replace it or I could get a new one, take the money and figure it out myself. He said that they would be calling me with all the options, which they did. I went through the process with the warranty and chose a microwave and they were wonderful about that.

Two delivery men came out to put the microwave in. One of them reached up and stepped up on the stepping stool and opened the cabinet. It’s an empty cabinet that is above the microwave. I live in the desert and there was a dead lizard up in the cabinet. He freaked out and went, “Oh my God! There’s a lizard up here!” I asked if it was moving and he said no but he can’t get it out of there and he can’t work up there with it. I picked up a paper towel, got the lizard out of there and then told him to go do it. He was talking to his partner while I did that and he didn’t get back up on the stool.

Then he said that he noticed that my screws are stripped up there. I told him that they are not and that they are tapping screws. They go in and they’re made to do that. He went, “No, they’re stripped. I can’t change the microwave.” I told him he hasn’t even tried and I asked what he was going to do. He said that he can leave the microwave or he can take the microwave and they can send it back out again. I didn’t want them to take the microwave and he said that I can refuse to have somebody put it in and I can have whoever to put it in, but he was not changing out the screws.

I got back up there and took a picture of the screws and sent them to my husband. My husband is an electrician and he said that the screws are not stripped. The tech got on the phone and his manager asked to speak to me. I got on the phone with them and the manager that backed them up was very rude on the phone. The first thing out of his mouth was, “My people don’t work with dead animals.” I told the manager that I didn’t ask the tech to pick up the dead lizard and I took care of it. And that I didn’t understand why he couldn’t change out the screws. The manager said, “My guy knows what he’s doing and he says the screws are stripped.” I told him that what was going on was that his guy got freaked over the lizard and he refused to go back up in the cabinet and do the work. He said, “Well, I don’t believe that. He thinks they’re stripped. I believe they’re stripped.”

Then the manager said that they could send out two other people if I’d like, but they were gonna say the same thing. And I said that I didn’t want their company to come out again. I told him I would call American Home Shield and let them know I wanted another company. He told me I couldn’t say something bad about them and they were doing their job. And I said, “I’m sorry. You’re not doing your job and I am going to tell American Home Shield not to send you again.” And before the tech left, he told me that I didn’t know what I was talking about and that I have never changed appliances myself so I was just badmouthing them to badmouth them. So I went, “Okay. Thanks for not coming back to my house ever again.” And he went, “Whatever.”

A tech from Garrett’s Appliance had come out before and changed the icemaker in the refrigerator and it was a good job. I asked American Home Shield to send Garrett’s Appliance out again which is also local in the area. The tech came out two days later, changed out the microwave right away, and stayed for about 20 minutes. So, I like American Home Shield and they took care of my issue right away. I’ve only used the warranty twice and they have been great on both times. I have also recommended American Home Shield since then.

My washer was leaking so I couldn’t use it. It is located on the second floor so I was even more worried because there will be leakage. I opened a claim to American Home Shield on Sunday night which the office was closed. I’m really worried about the washer ‘cause it continues to leak. It was very strange that it was leaking from the bottom of the washer and not from one of the hoses that are connected to the washer. I had to turn off the water main but the water continued to leak even after turning it off I continuously wiping it throughout the day multiple times. I was hoping that Monday morning, someone would call me and schedule an appointment.

But I didn’t receive any call the entire Monday. Until the end of the day, I tried calling and leaving a voicemail but no one responded to my voicemail either. I tried calling on Tuesday. And as soon as I left the voicemail and hung up the phone, I received a call back thing saying that I'm calling to schedule an appointment. I ended up reaching the lady who called me and giving her my claim number. She was not able to find my claim in her system so she asked me for my street address, first name and last name on the account. She was not able to pull up my claim number, and I told her that I can give her my claim number and she can pull up the information on the basis of that. But she said that it will not gonna help her.

Then after a very frustrating 20 minutes, she told me that she was just stepping in to help somebody schedule the appointments. She added that she cannot help me and said that she'll call me back when she's able to find my information. I was very stressed. I received a text message on my phone with a claim number and I have all of the details. I can give it to her if they are not able to find my claim but she refused to take those. She was saying that it was not her job, but I just need someone to schedule an appointment for me.

Finally, the same lady calls me back after an hour. I told her I’m glad to know that she was able to locate my account details. I explained the problem and said that I’ve waited Monday and nothing happened. I was hoping that I get somebody come again on Tuesday, and if not, then on Wednesday. The lady told me she cannot schedule anyone to come in on Tuesday or Wednesday and the earliest she has on is on Thursday. I told her that it was past 24 hours and I didn’t receive any call yesterday. She was saying that if I did not hear from them until the end of Tuesday, they probably maybe late. I wouldn’t even say that it was the case and I think they get three business days to respond to that. But I'm a little confused and I don’t know what the deal was there.

After the frustrating call with her, I called American Home Shield eight times and waited through their wait lines. I got somebody to talk to and requested them to reroute me to some other service provider who could really help me ‘cause that lady was not the one who was supposed to be at the desk doing the job. They suggested that I speak with the same service provider because if they were to switch, it would even further delay scheduling an appointment. I frantically tried calling that lady back and left voice messages but I didn’t receive any calls for the rest of Tuesday and even on Wednesday. I called American Home Shield again. My husband and I both emailed UK Enterprise and the lady who was supposed to be at the desk responded through email. She scheduled somebody to come and that person finally showed up on Friday.

He found the problem. He saw that there were multiple valves that were ruptured and because of which, the water was leaking. He ordered the parts and he said that it can take a max of two weeks. Until two weeks, we didn’t hear back from them so I finally decided to call back and inquire. My husband called them and inquired about the parts. They said that it just arrived today so they were gonna schedule an appointment, and that was a coincidence. I had no washer for more than four weeks, from the start of the incident so I had to take all of my laundries to the coin laundromat and spent every weekend there.

We’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I would say that they have certain service providers that are pretty prompt and good at what they do. So I’ve had really good experience with them as well as I have had similar experiences with whoever service provider they worked with. Either are non-responsive. They’re not customer service oriented. It’ll be more like they are doing a favor by fixing the problem. But we pay for this service so they're not doing a favor on me. That attitude needs to change, and they need to really vet their service providers.

For this particular experience, I was pretty bummed with the whole situation and I would say I am dissatisfied. My major frustration was that there was a person behind the counter who has no idea what to do. It took them a week to send somebody to take a look at the washer to see what problems there were. I intentionally got a larger washer from Sears ‘cause we tend to have a lot of laundry. And I bought a five-year extended warranty on the washer just because of this experience with American Home Shield. I don’t wanna deal with them. I’d rather deal with Sears’ warranty and have them send somebody.

Per your review, I am aware that the washer has been replaced through Sears with an extended warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience with American Home Shield.

This is my first time being a homeowner, and I'm not inclined to be able to fix plumbing or air-conditioners. And all of my family are in California, so when I moved in here, I looked around at various home warranty providers and decided on American Home Shield and I've been very happy with them. It's very easy to file I claim. I just call them and they normally text me the name of the contractor within the next two hours. A lot of times they may have texted me and I didn't realize it, they would say the name of the contractor and the timeframe that they will come out. They're always very polite and very nice. And everything gets done fairly quickly. It's nice to be able to call American Home Shield and know it's not gonna take six months to get things done. And every time I called, they're very helpful. They're reliable and trustworthy. And I have never ever had any problems with anybody that came to the house. So it's been good.

The stove was over 10 years old and the issue came down to improper wiring. The contractors that American Home Shield sent came out several times and they were great each time. They put hours and hours into it, but they just couldn’t resolve the issue so we ended up getting a new stove. They gave me the choice of either getting one through them of comparable value or x amount of dollars then they’ll reimburse it at one point. I bought it over the weekend.

Doing the claim was no big deal. What was frustrating was I knew that I was gonna be getting a replacement but nobody followed up with me on it. It had been several days, so I called. I literally waited on hold for 45 minutes just till I got through a representative. It was unreasonable. I don’t have that time. I work nights and I work two jobs. We’re all busy. That’s my biggest frustration and my only frustration so far. Once they took my call, they were very helpful, expedited the process, and explained to me exactly what I needed to do. My issues have been resolved. It took a lot of time, but the stove is electronic.

I filed the claim with American Home Shield for the hot water heater on the day of the storm around August. The guy came out and said it needed a part. He wired something so I could have hot water and he left. I kept calling him after the storm and didn’t hear from him. Finally I contacted and asked him if had he ordered the part which he said he had. Another month or two, nothing happened. I called back and it was the same thing. Finally after six months, I called the company again and said the guy has never returned my calls and I asked them what was going on. They said they would order the part and it took another month. We finally got the part in, they sent the guy out and he replaced the part. Two weeks later it went out again. I called back and they told me they would call the home warranty people and tell them to reissue our order because it was still within three weeks.

He came back out and said that it's the structure of the house that's causing it and the water heater needs a certain ventilation. I told him that we've had the house and water heater for eight years and it has never done it, so why is it, all of a sudden, doing it? He said that maybe the core needed to be cleaned and I told him to go ahead and clean the core. He said they can't do it because they can't put the core back in the property. I asked him what the next step would be and he said that they would have to replace the water heater. So, I told him to replace the water heater and he said that before they do that, I'd have to re-fix the structure of the house, maybe add another vent, which I thought was absolutely ridiculous.

I understand American Home Shield has to go through the motions of replacing things, but they have technicians who come out and they know that anything that is not under can cause the warranty to be void. For instance, I called to have my garage door fixed because it wasn’t operating and the guy said that I had the wrong light bulb in, so that voided the warranty because the circuit board had burned, but he said it was due to the type of the light bulb I had. I’ve been with American Home Shield for as long as I’ve had my home, about 10 years, and I feel safe knowing I have something if something happens. But every time I call, I'll have a funny feeling that it's gonna be a fight just to get a repair and get the follow up done.

I’m paying American Home Shield $60 a month and I only call them once a year. A part costs $30 and the technician was there for less than an hour. So, I'm really looking at it if it's cost effective. Plus, I go through so much to call the companies that are responsible for coming out to work. They don’t wanna do the work because they’re not getting what they would get if they were just there as a plumber, so they do the least amount they can. They put a band aid on it and get out the door as quickly as possible. The only saving grace is if that band aid doesn’t hold, then you can simply call them back again and expose the crap out of them until they get it fixed.

My washing machine started making a noise so I called American Home Shield. They sent a company out and the technician had to order a cog for it and one of the little clip things underneath it at the edge of the tub which broke off. And then he had to order the gears so I had to wait a week for that. However, that didn’t fix it so AHS had to send them back. It took the company three trips to get it fixed. It was three different times and three different men but they fixed it. My deductible for $100 was all that it cost me.

In the past, in the house I was in before this one, I had some issues with a girl that worked for American Home Shield. We were getting ready to put the house on the market. I had four bathrooms in that house and in one of the toilets, the ring thing had started leaking and running down the floor. It was a nightmare. I called American Home Shield and they sent a company out. The contractor that they sent put bleach in my tank which was why that little rubber gasket had brought it. American Home Shield refused to pay for it. The contractor was fixing to charge me $300. He wanted me to have to pay him because if AHS wouldn't cover it, I would have to pay for it to get it fixed. I had several bad conversations with them over that.

We bought a house that was a repo and we knew there were a lot of issues with it. American Home Shield was awesome. The people that had owned the house had taken the motor out of the Vent-A-Hood. They took every light fixture. We knew we would have to pay for all of that. But they were so good, then we ended up selling that house and we left here for Winton, Minnesota. My husband was a contract worker in Winton, Minnesota and stayed about seven or eight months on the job and then came back to Houston and bought another house. And we put American Home Shield on it and they did really well all through. We were in that house for six or seven years. And then we bought a brand new house and needless to say, it was under warranty. After the warranty period was up, we put AHS on it.

American Home Shield is a lot more expensive now than they used to be but they're very much worth it. I paid $700 and something dollars for a year. They cover my washing machine, dryer, freezer, refrigerator, and plumbing. That’s coverage for everything in my house that moves. I got a washing machine that’s almost brand new inside due to all the work they had to do to figure out what was making it make noise. I have that comfort knowing that if my fee goes up, no matter what it costs, it’s gonna cost me $100 and that’s it. Plus they’re prompt. AHS is a big company so I accredit the fact that I had problems with one technician several years ago to the fact that they’re a big company. She was young, probably hadn’t been on the job very long and didn’t really know what she was doing. So the one bad experience that I had with them would not keep me from recommending them.

A few months prior, the water heater went out so I called them over the phone at that link because I didn’t know how to do it on the cellphone. It was more convenient to do it that way. Both contractors were very good and they called in less than 24 hours. The dishwasher has been working since which is important for my pre-teen daughter, more important to her than to me. We have 3 different policies with AHS. We are on the third different repairman that tells us our A/C needs to be replaced but AHS will not allow it. They have all told us that if they give a replacement diagnosis then AHS asks for a second opinion. If the second opinion is non-replacement, then they (original repairman) will get reprimanded and possibly lose the account. They are instructed to repair no matter what. This is NOT what the sales reps say when marketing their company. In fact, it's quite the opposite. They always tell real estate agents/companies how flexible/liberal they are with replacing defective equipment and systems. And then there's the bait and switch. When a repairman comes out for an issue that "should" be covered, there's always a loophole that says it's not. Then we're stuck paying for a repair from a service company that we didn't choose. I have 2 policies up for renewal and will be looking for another home warranty company.

Every month I call and speak to someone to try and correct the billing error (wrong expiration date for C Card). Every month I am told the problem has been corrected. The next month, same thing all over again. This month after I called about the failed payment, they told me the issue had been fixed. The next day my credit card was charged for the monthly amount twice within 1 minute.

When I called about this, the person I talked to told me it would take 3-4 weeks for my refund to get to my bank!!! They can charge my card twice in 1 minute, but it will take 3-4 weeks to give me a refund, that's BS. Also you can never talk to the same person twice, even when you ask for the person you just spoke with, they can't do that either. And they won't email you back either. They will send you an email when you owe them $$$, but they won't send an email when you pay on the account, so the customer has to call the billing dept for payment confirmation, which won't answer the phone at all or only after you've been on hold for 20-30 min. The sales people always answer the phone and are very polite and try to help do what they can. I would cancel my contract, but I've heard that AHS is the best compared to the other companies selling Home warranty contracts.

As much as such wording exists in their contract I fail to see why would they put such restrictions on the coverage. Upon consulting with their customer support who asked me to move the fridge to the kitchen and submit another claim... I did just that. The repair guy (from a different company this time) came and said the fridge is unfixable. I got a call from AHS saying they are denying the claim again.

Even though the fridge was in the kitchen this time, they claimed its the same issue. I've to coverage so I could get my appliances fixed and I find both of these reasons flimsy. Most appalling is the fact that I was told to file a new claim only to get it denied again. Each time I've to pay $75 so why was I pushed into paying the second $75 when they knew they will deny it again!!! They should either fix my fridge or pay for the replacement as this is what a home warranty is supposed to do.

I requested services on my air conditioner on April 25, 2018. To date, my family and I have suffered in 90+ degree temperatures because AHS (a company that claims "when covered items break down, AHS can help"). Does it take 30 days to get a "covered item" fixed? No matter how many times I call, I have to hold 30-45 minutes before speaking to an individual then lied to about the services. The ONLY call I received from AHS was on May 14, 2018 and that was to inform me that the total amount owed by me "not covered" is $400. This company is the worst when it comes to customer service and are not true to their brand. I DO NOT recommend anyone to do business with AHS.

Updated on 06/12/2018: This is an update to my experience with American Home Shield Warranty (AHS). My family and I suffered 7 WEEKS in the Texas heat without air conditioning. From April 25, 2018 to June 7, 2018 we were without air conditioning due to the negligence of AHS and DFW HVAC AND PLUMBING LLC (Richardson, TX) Customer Service Team. My service request was NOT a priority for either business. After placing several phone calls to both businesses regarding the delays, the customer service teams continued to blame the other, all the while my family and I continued to suffer in the heat. Scheduled service request were not only delayed, but canceled for "different" reasons by both businesses.

Finally after 7 weeks, we got an air conditioner. We were approved to purchase a window unit on 5/21 and then again on 5/23, promising reimbursement up to $125. Although we were grateful for that offer, our electric bill is $200 more than normal because of the window units. I have canceled my contract with AHS and DO NOT recommend anyone do business with either business.

The trainee paid very good attention to what was going on and at times, did some of the work on it which was pretty cool. Also, I wanted to know what the technician was doing and he shared that information. I was very satisfied with him.

But the technician had to call American Home Shield for a part, which was an unusual part and proprietary. I then had to reschedule him to come back. When that new part was made, he came back and that part was not the correct part. So, we had to order the part directly from the manufacturer which took a while to get as well. Then I had to schedule the appointment and finally, the water heater worked without any problem. It was very frustrating as it took about three weeks for it to be done and I had to go over to my mom’s house, so it was not pleasant. When it becomes more expensive to repair something, AHS doesn’t replace it until it finally breaks. He was very good in coming out and assessing the problem, and he got it taken care of. Everything about the experience was fine. Also, within this year our washing machine leaked and our garage door was broken twice. American Home Shield stood behind everything and everything was taken care of. I've already told our neighbors about them.

There was a leak in my AC unit and I called it in with American Home Shield. The guy that they sent could not track the leak until he's been called out three times this year. They kept coming and putting freon in my AC. They charged me $95 per pound of freon and $137 service charge. I could have gotten it done for $50 but I paid $200 to AHS and I still got the problem. The contractor will be back out in about two weeks and it would cost me another $137. I pay all these money every year and every time I have an issue, it's about 400 bucks so I'm not impressed. That's messed up. Also, I added a pool last year and my pool people submitted all the paperwork to American Home Shield but I never heard back from them, so our pool is still not covered.

There was water coming through the wall in at least two separate incidents, but they were the same thing. I tried to put sheetrocks there and every time I would put it, it would get wet. American Home Shield sent ASAP Plumbing out and the first time they came, I was told it was one bathroom. Apparently, it wasn’t because the water was still coming through the wall a week later. Then they came for the second time and I did not have a good experience.

There were two plumbers who walked in. The first plumber, from the second he got to the door, did not want to be here. He did not do plumbing. It was towards the end of the day, so I don’t know if he had something planned. When he got in here, he tried to say it was a separate issue in that bathroom. I told him that it was not and it was coming out from the same place. I told him that I can show it to him because I showed it to the other plumbers. He disagreed because he said the previous plumber fixed the other bathroom. I told him that they are the plumbers and they were the ones that said it was that bathroom, so he went in there.

The other plumber with him was outside and when I went in, he thought it was the other plumber behind him. He said that he broke the line, but I didn’t know what that meant. He went back to the plumbing and said that he had to call American Home Shield because he didn’t think it was covered. Then I looked at where he said there was a leak at first, and what used to be a little tiny drip was already gushing. Then I knew he broke it when he said "Oh, I broke the line". He went outside afterwards and there was a big leak. Then he went outside to the truck, came back in and said that American Home Shield says it was not covered because it was cosmetic plumbing and it was not anything they’re responsible for. It was the second time that I paid $75 to have them tell me it’s not covered.

ASAP Plumbing didn’t find the leak and so I paid for a new plumber to come in and fix it because there was no way I was giving them the job after they acted like that. And the new plumber fixed what they did at first. The drain part that attaches to the tub was old and the previous plumber kept yanking on it, trying to see if that was the leak, and pulled it out. What was down in the tub was broken so the new plumber fixed that. He also found another issue, which I paid up for on top. He thought it might have been the original leak so he replaced the whole shower. It was $900 because he had to weld and had to do everything. Now, I still have a leak but I gave up. It is never there except when it rains and it's not severe that we can’t live with it or figure out. When I looked up online, somehow it said that I have to seal around the house, so I’m working on that. But what I did was put a vent there so it’ll leak through the vent and we can control it.

I wasn’t too disappointed with American Home Shield because this is not my first experience with the home warranty, so I haven’t expected them to cover anything. Yet I had always paid for the home warranty. What I was very disappointed in was the plumber's attitude. There wasn't any assistance with him. I thought about calling his company and American Home Shield but I didn't. I just needed to deal with what I got.

Then I had some problems with our sewer line. We had a plugged sewer and they got it cleaned over for us.

My water heater wasn’t working and I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. Then the plumbing company called me and they came out. The tech was good but I had to help him in figuring out that the plug wasn’t working. He was launching into the plumbing stuff not working and I asked him about the plug and we figured out it was the electrical supply to the water heater. So, it went from a plumbing issue to an electrical one and I asked the plumber if both would be under the same charge and he told me that it would be. Then, the electrician came out and did his thing and I started to get these emails saying that I owed another $75. I chatted with American Home Shield and they told me that they would take the charge off but I kept getting the notes. I chatted with them again and they told me that it would take them 14 days. And now the emails seemed to have stopped.

The plug in the wall was out and we couldn't figure out what it was. I called American Home Shield to submit the claim and the representative was fine and real nice. The electrician came down and plugged the washer in the garage on the same circuit in the house that was in between the wall. It was so fast and he fixed it. Another time, I called them back for hot water. When we got the refrigerator and they put in the ice maker, and then it got crossed to something, we weren't able to get hot water. When we moved here, we had hot water, then all of a sudden, we didn't have. The contractor that came out couldn't get it and said that he had to run a whole new line, and I couldn't figure out why it had to be like that. But the contractor was nice and I'd recommend AHS. Everything we called them about, they've made an appointment and did it. The contractors also came on the time that they were supposed to.

My son had American Home Shield in South Carolina and he suggested AHS to me because I’m by my 70’s and I don’t know anything on what to do. The most recent claim I filed was when the washer was not washing the clothes properly. The water was there but would not turn the cycles. The process took a long time because it was given to Sears who came and looked at it. Then they said that we have to order some parts. However, the tech didn’t tell me that the parts will arrive at my place and that was a bit of a surprise. I don’t live there continuously because I lost my wife last year and my family said that I shouldn't live alone here. So I live either with my daughter or with my son.

The tech came again and my son was there. But my son was not much concerned about what’s happening. The tech said that the job was done and that it was fine so both of them left. But then, I came back and I tried to run a small load and it still was not spinning. I again called American Home Shield and they called the Sears people. Another person came and at that time, I was home. The previous tech did not notice that the bell in the machine wasn’t balanced but the second tech pointed it out. Then he said, “You have to help me lift it.” I said I could move it but not lift it. He asked for some gummy seals and we had some leftover from some work so I gave him that. He then put some wooden pieces which I only have to push with a rod.

Since then, the washer has been working well although it’s not being used occasionally, I go if I have something to do. But I tried to use it when I was there for about four days and my looked fine. Overall, my experience with AHS was wonderful. I had been with them for five years now and the only thing I would recommend is that they should give some more credit for senior people because it is $75 to $80 which looks quite high.

I submitted a plumbing claim to American Home Shield and they sent out a guy that was here for two hours. He said he got underneath the crawl space and then, he went out to his truck and called AHS. He came back and had the claim denied until I got the granite off the garden tub. He said it had to be taken off before he could adjust anything. It was a lot of money, work, and risk. I had to do my own research and call my granite guy that worked on another house who said it was ridiculous. I also had to call the people that put a door in my closet on the motor of the garden tub and the guy also said that was ridiculous.

I called AHS to get somebody out here on the weekend because I couldn't use the cold water. American Home Shield said that my claim was denied and that they would not be able to send anybody out here until I get the granite off. They argued with me and I was in dispute with that person for an hour. And she said there was no supervisor available. It was the weekend and too bad for me. I was mad and it was upsetting that I would have to pay for another $75 to get somebody to come out for a second opinion. The rep said she needed to get with a supervisor. I was sitting there for four or five days with the thing not working and a denied claim.

I waited the whole day on Monday and nobody called me back. On Monday afternoon, I called and got somebody different. They said, "Yes, this person was looking," and somebody would get back with me by end of day but nobody did. Then, I went through the same thing on Tuesday and on Wednesday, I said I was not paying a second one. I asked for somebody that has come out before when I had an air pressure issue that was making a noise. These plumbers seemed to be very knowledgeable and they were great. AHS didn’t send them and sent a different contractor.

A-Total came out and the guy tightened it and fixed it but it took him a while to analyze it and I had to go through the whole scenario. I'm sure he was on a time crunch so we didn’t totally test it out and he didn’t totally explain that if it goes all the way around, I would have to do the certain thing and then it's fixed. But he tightened it and it hasn’t slipped. Then, he had to come back a second time because the handle was spinning and he had to show me what to do if it slips again. But under absolutely no way does that granite need to come off that bathtub. I was thankful that I had him.

I had to talk it out of being denied and I had to get so angry with these people before they took me seriously. And their supervisors were not available and you never get the same person. I started calling in and hanging when I figured out a snot was answering the phone. I would hang up and call back until I got somebody that I thought was half-knowledgeable and would resolve it. I finally got a man who said that he would send out the plumber that I liked.

Also, that was a week and a half and it cost me time. I didn’t understand why I had to wait and I was getting the biggest runaround. I just wanted to throw my hands up and say, "Fine, I'll be without cold water on that note and I'll see you in court." I just thought, "Just write up something and submit it in." I was disputing and I didn’t want another $75 charge. I think they should credit me back the $75 for the first visit. The first person that came was deplorable. I hope AHS take him off their list. If they don’t, they're asking for big trouble. They called back to see if it was resolved but I don't think they were prompt.

I got a supervisor who I just kept ranting and raving about the first guy that came out. The first contractor said he was on vacation for two weeks the next day for spring break. So, it would be two weeks before he could come back out. And one of the supervisors noticed that and said, "Yes but we didn’t know that because they just sent in something that said don’t call us for two weeks." Evidently, he didn’t want to be there and he didn't seem to want to come back. He was just walking around the house. It was something that he couldn't get the handle or he didn’t have the tool and that was what I asked the second guy that came. The second guy said, "All it took was a Philips screwdriver to get that thing off."

On top of that, I had to go to Home Depot and I wanted to get the parts in case they needed something. I wanted it to match. If it's the cold water handle that they had to put another one in, I wanted it to match because the supervisor said they would just put whatever they have in onto the truck. I wanted to be proactive there and I was trying to help but they told me no. If one of them is broken, they're all interrelated so you're going to be hosed for the whole thing and the whole thing's gonna have to be replaced.

The plumber I had before for the air pressure did a great job. I was thrilled with him. And in that same time, I needed a plumber on the icemaker machine because it wasn't working. The guy they sent out got in there and he said that the waterline had not been hooked up. Then, two days later, the icemaker wasn't working again. I got set up with that and the icemaker wouldn't work but they cancelled three days in a row when it was flu season because their guy had the flu. So for three days, I cleared out my schedule for that one time frame. They should have sent it over to somebody else but I was trying to be a little patient.

Then about a month or two later, I called in that the water in the icemaker is not working again. This guy came out and he said, "This model has a lot of problems. You need to de-thaw it. It's frozen." It was a known problem with this thing and then he showed me how I could use a hair dryer to de-thaw it and then it would come out. Had the first guy gone into it a little bit more detail, I wouldn't have had to pay the next $75. I have passed that off but I was still annoyed because you're waiting four hours for them to show up. They never show up at the 1:00, it's always later. And that's the other thing, you get a 1:00 - 4:00 and if they get there 4:15, you sat around half the day waiting for them.

AHS needs to go through their vendor list and look at that. As a female, I just really resent it because I could just see people looking at me and that reading their minds, "They scammed you." I could have gotten scammed with the granite guy to come take it out. They're preying on innocent people. I wanted to go out on that company website but I don’t want to argue with these people. I'm just not going to renew the Home Shield and never use them again. I have reached out to my insurance agent who recommended them and spoke highly of them and I told her she's making a big mistake here because I'm angry. It was a lot of time and it was another person coming to the house. And I paid a hefty premium for that. I could have taken $500 or $600 balance and bought new appliances. But we went with the Home Shield and now I'm stuck on additional $300. It's just not worth it.

The motor on our pool wasn't running from when I moved in and I didn't realize it. I just bought the house and when I had a pool guy come in, he turned it on and it was super loud. So he wouldn't even know it wasn't running. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and the experience with their website was good. I had a good interaction with the contractor they sent and the motor was fixed the same day.

The only thing was there was another part right by where the motor was fixed and it's leaking. I'm not a pool person, and I didn't know what was wrong. The contractor was here for that but the fact that it wasn't brought to my attention kind of bothered me. And I didn't like that. The pool guy brought it to my attention. So then when I called American Home Shield back, I told them why wouldn't they tell me if they saw another problem that was in the exact same area. And so they said, "Well, you can file another claim and this, this and that." But I already paid for somebody to come out. And I didn't really appreciate that. They were saying it might not be the same part but when I'm filing a claim that there's something wrong with how the pool is running, I would think that's a system and not just an individual piece.

Like any insurance company, AHS will have no problem collecting your premiums, but will fight you tooth and nail if something needs to be fixed. Our central air conditioner was not functioning. We were told there was a leak and we needed Freon. The technician fixed the leak, but AHS only covered $10/lb for Freon. The unit required 7 lbs and the cost to replace Freon was over $100/ lbs. As a result, it would cost (out of pocket) about $700 to get air conditioner functioning. That is actually more than the entire yearly AHS premium, so why bother even having a home “insurance policy.” AHS is a racket... like I said earlier, they will fight you to fix anything. Items covered, are not really covered. Read the fine print carefully.

When we called an outside contractor to change the coil they told us that the outside unit hasn't been installed properly and is leaking. It has been almost 3 weeks since that happened in 80 degrees weather we have a 10 day old baby at home and the heat is terrible. Every time we call American Home Shield they tell us someone will reach out today or tomorrow and we are just waiting!!! DONT GO WITH THIS COMPANY!

I had several things done through American Home Shield and I was pretty satisfied with all the repairs. I was satisfied with the repair on my refrigerator and my garage door. Also, filing claims is a whole lot easier than it used to be. I could either go online or on the phone and I don’t have to wait for a representative to answer the phone. I can give all my information there. Before, I would have to wait for 20 minutes for a representative to answer the phone. The only complaint I had with AHS is with the plumbing problems in my main bathroom. The bathroom is really necessary for my mom. She’s 98-years-old and she has problems walking. I called that in on a Monday and the representative told me that I couldn’t get anybody until Thursday. It was an emergency and I didn’t like waiting until Thursday for someone to come out. Nevertheless, overall, I’m pretty satisfied with American Home Shield.

AHS has a quick service and turnaround time. When our air conditioner needed Freon and a new part that holds the Freon, I submitted a claim online with them which was easy to do. I then got an email a couple of days later saying that we had to pay for the Freon which was surprising. We didn’t realize that we had to pay for the Freon per pound. We didn’t read that part. But when the contractor came, it went fine and the AC is working much better now. But our main concern is that if the AC does it again, do we really want to keep doing this? The unit would eventually break.

The power outlet kept blowing a fuse. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor called me and said they'd be out within a week. They came out and fixed one outlet and told me the other outlet outside was not covered. I wasn't really happy with it and I had to pay for that outside outlet. And then, there was one outlet that kept blowing in the bathroom from an outside outlet. They fixed the surge protector or the GFI in the bathroom but it kept blowing. So, the contractor had to come back and I had him replace the outlet outside that was blowing the GFI.

I put one claim in a year and I've been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years now. I'm a bit upset because normally, whatever issue I have, the vendor would tell me that they would be out between the hours of 8:00 and noon or 11:00 and 5:00. So, I would have to take a day off work to wait for them to come out. And they show up, look at the item and say that they've got to come back because they never take information over the phone. And then I would have to take another day off work to sit at home and wait for them to come and replace or fix the item. It has always cost me two days work whenever there's a problem. So, I canceled the whole service call with a vendor because it was ridiculous.

In fact, I just put a claim in for my refrigerator which could go out at any moment and I could lose everything in it but no one had bothered to give me a call back yet. And I pay American Home Shield $700 a year for this? It's been three days and there hasn't been even a courtesy call. But I received an email that they send automatically saying someone would contact me within 24 hours. However, I've waited 48 hours now. So, I will call them and make sure they get me off this.

The only reason I stay with American Home Shield is because California Service really sucks. I travel a lot and it's easy for me to call the final vendor and say that I have a GFI that keeps blowing. I just don't plug in a thing into that for a week or two until they get it fixed and that's not a big deal. But when I have an issue like the refrigerator, that's a big deal. So I would think that they would at least follow-up with a phone call because who can live without a refrigerator? The other claim I had last year was for my furnace that wouldn't kick on. American Home Shield sent somebody out and the vendor had to order a part and then came back a week later and put the part in. So, I had to go out and buy myself some heaters to warm my house because it was during the winter. It took the vendor a week to get out to take a look at it and then another week to come back in, and so it was two weeks out without a furnace or air conditioner.

I called in a claim for my AC unit and the contractors have been friendly and very nice. They've been out several times before and filled the unit up but it would leak out. They came back out because it was in a 60-day period and refilled it for free. The first cost was $10 and if that was the deal for every two months, I cannot afford that. They came out Thursday and they were going back and forth but they finally decided to replace the unit. They said they were just waiting for American Home Shield to give the final okay on it. But I haven't heard from them since yesterday. I'd definitely recommend AHS.

I have been using American Home Shield for two years now. I’ve dealt with them in the past on a former house and I was not at all happy with what they did there. But, submitting a claim with them online has been fine and their website has been fairly easy to use. When I wasn’t getting heat on my heater, I submitted a claim and it took three days for the contractor to contact me. My wife was the one at home when the technician came and she said that it went well. The technician knew exactly what was wrong and what to do, and he explained to my wife how to make the heat work correctly. It turned out, it was just a thermostat setting. The house has five thermostats and we didn’t know that all of the thermostats have to be either set to cool, heat or off to make it work correctly. Once we got all the thermostats set, we've had heat.

While everything went fine in that particular call, I’ve had difficulty attempting to bring service on my refrigerator's ice maker that would get frosted up and won't work. I attempted to arrange that with American Home Shield and everything went so well online. I got the confirmation that they received my request and an email, and they said the technician would be out after a certain time. But, nobody showed up. I called American Home Shield on the phone and they looked at my request. When they found it, they said they didn't know if they could get in touch with the technician that late and they would try. Then, they called me back and told me that they were able to get in touch with the technician, but they were not satisfied with the response. They were gonna contact another technician to come out but the soonest they could get to me would be a week.

I asked if there was anybody else that they could send and they said they only have two companies in the area that would service the ice maker. And so far, we haven't heard anything from the technician. In the meantime, I fixed the ice maker myself but it was just a temporary fix. It was just to defrost the ice maker with a hairdryer. That makes it work for a while, but it would eventually frost up again.

Also, my personal dissatisfaction with American Home Shield is that when they would come out to look at something that was wrong with our house, they would tell us they couldn't replace it and would give us a small amount of money toward a new one. They've made it sound that if you have their warranty, they could replace an appliance that breaks down. But they don’t really. It's like buying a water heater or a battery for your car. They prorate it.

American Home Shield's online portal is very intuitive. It’s very easy to use and to schedule something is lickety-split. But it’s hit or miss with their vendors. One time, I had an electrician come out and he was wonderful. I also had a plumber who came out two times on the same day, which was amazing. And even though he was expensive and I didn’t know why he charged me when I already paid the $75, the job was done.

Then, I had the Samsung people come out for my icemaker that hasn't worked since I moved into the house in mid-December. I used Home Shield's service to schedule the repair due in January and until now, I'm still waiting for their tech, James, to fix the ice machine. He was such an idiot and was acting like he was on some kind of an upper.

When James first came over our house and spoke with my daughter, he said that we needed a certain part. Their rep, Samantha, called and told us that she would order the part for us. She took the calls from her home and there was always background noise like kids and dogs. I like both of those but I think that they're a racket and not a real business. And Samantha was sweet but she obviously had no sway with her own people. She said they lost my ticket. Then she ordered the wrong part and didn’t do any due diligence. Later, she said she didn’t remember calling us about it. But my daughter and I remember them calling us about the part.

Then, James came out again for the second time in the beginning of last week and said he knew what part it was. But he said he didn’t have the part number. So I drew the picture of the part and the model number and sent it to them. However, he still hasn’t come back out. It’s the worst customer service I’ve ever had and it was a horrible experience. And when I told the Samsung people that I was gonna make a complaint to American Home Shield, they ran around like chickens with their heads off, saying they were gonna figure it out and send their guy back out. Other than that, everybody else that American Home Shield sent out has been awesome. So, their vendors need to be checked out a bit more thoroughly and a follow-up with them would be really nice.

American Home Shield has been very good about sending out people. I submit a claim with them over the phone and we get our appointment set up. But, the company they contracted for my air conditioning unit had been out here a lot of times and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. The AC sounded like someone was picking it up and dropping it, and my neighbors could hear it from their yard and complained about it. It made a tremendous racket and this had been over a two-year period and I had people out here six different times to get it fixed. And it obviously worked, but it was still not fixed. But that same company also does plumbing, and they've had another fellow come here and repair a problem right away. And he did a good job and was pleasant.

Then finally, this unit upstairs just quit working. And it quit working at a very bad time. I had my house on the market and it cost me the sale of my home. For the most part, AHS has been a very good company. But this issue with the AC that has been going on since I’ve been here is the problem. If the AC can’t be repaired, AHS at least needs to replace the unit. That’s why I pay them every year for and hopefully, they'll get that taken care of. Other than that, AHS really covers a lot of issues and it's nice to know that there's someone there to back you up to take care of it. And I still recommend them no matter what because overall, they have done a nice job for me. It's just my air conditioner.

I filed my first claim online to American Home Shield and the process was very easy. The AC wasn’t turning on anymore, and a contractor came out. I showed him the unit, explained to him what was happening, and he jumped right on it and quickly figured out what it was. I have not used the AC very much but it's been working well. I loved the experience and I am very pleased. I have been actually telling my friends about it and how great the service call was.

For things, especially those that are expensive such as air conditioning units, it helps to have some type of insurance to help cover the costs. And from the actual customer service standpoint, it makes it very easy to get somebody to call. I've called for AC units before at the previous places I've lived, and especially when it starts to get warmer and they start to get busier, they tend to make you wait several weeks before they can get to you. But this one was done within a day. I submitted the request on Friday and the technician was there Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.

My doorbell wasn’t functioning anymore. I have an original 1940's chime doorbell and the electricity to it kept burning out. I initiated a claim and American Home Shield sent a company called Wisdom Electric. They came to my house and they said that the wall needed to be opened up, that the electrical wiring had to be changed, and that it was very old and disintegrating. However, AHS didn’t cover the breaking of the wall and that we had to pay that out of pocket.

I never received a follow-up phone call. I called AHS and they said that I would have to contact Wisdom Electric. I contacted Wisdom Electric to let them know that I wanted to pay out of pocket with an additional cost to get this resolved so that they would submit the claim to AHS. Again, I never heard back. The electrician from Wisdom Electric was telling me then what was covered and what wasn’t. I didn’t feel comfortable with that, seeing as how he doesn’t work for AHS. I called AHS and they told me a different information. I requested a second opinion because the electrician kept saying that we have an intercom system, which we don’t. We have a camera that was completely independent of the doorbell which runs on batteries and it's not even connected to the electrical.

The second company came out and confirmed that we do not have an intercom system but it is a doorbell. It is covered under the plan and that we did not have to open up the wall and change the wiring. But it was something within the doorbell that needed to be replaced. So then, he was gonna submit the claim to AHS and see if they wanted to replace the doorbell or if they wanted to order that part. Since the doorbell is old, the electrician said that it would be very difficult to find the part. I never heard anything back. I called AHS to follow-up. They said that they were waiting for the electrician to submit the claim and told me something totally different from what the electrician told me.

Then American Home Shield contacted that electrician and they confirmed that what I was saying was correct. I have it in writing. I told the AHS person that I’m not comfortable with the person from the first company who I didn't agree with and who gave me an incorrect claim entering my home and making the repairs. The rep insisted that that was the policy after I asked for a second opinion. How would I know that he was not gonna do something to sabotage the work or that he’s even gonna be competent to complete the job?

I called and I made a claim against him. They said he’s gonna fix it and it’d be made right. I had no choice and I didn’t like that. It’s my house. I get to decide who does what in my house regardless of what their policies are. That was a terrible policy so I cancelled it. I would rather pay full-price out of pocket to have this electrical repaired than have anything to do with this company again.

The second company that came out was S.M. Electric. I thought that they were gonna make the repair but according to AHS, the first person had to come out because they were the ones that received the payment. I also told AHS that every time I would log in to get a copy of a PDF of what the plan was and what was covered, it wasn’t available online. I don’t have a hard copy of it so I have to base everything on what a contracted electrician is telling me and I don’t know if it is true or not.

And the tech has been telling me that I have to pay this, I have to pay that, and I don’t think that is acceptable as a consumer. I get my policy from AHS. They are the ones that I make my monthly payments to. They should provide me with the information in writing and it should be accessible at all times, but it is not. Also, when the person making the repairs comes to my house and they submit a claim to AHS, AHS should then call and follow up and let me know what’s going on. I shouldn’t have to make multiple calls. So I intend to get my doorbell fixed and pay for it myself.

Whenever we call American Home Shield, our experience with the reps are always good and we get a callback from an assigned contractor within 24 hours. The issue with our heating, however, took a bit longer to resolve partly due the fact that there was a storm in the area that had knocked out a bunch of stuff and since the contractor had delayed response. I had to call repeated times to get them in here. Ultimately, when I reached them they had explained everything else and they did come. It took the better part of almost two weeks to resolve the issue and though I understand that part of that had to do with the storm, the lack of communication was certainly not helpful.

Climate Masters, the heating contractor, had an overload of work, which was within reason at some point but at another point, it's like, “Well, you really have to do a better job. You're addressing a customer and even if you can't go, just knowing that, ‘Hey, we've got you and we haven't forgotten about you’”, is important. It is a reassurance that the customers haven't been lost in space or speech. But for the most part, I'm very satisfied with everything that I've had with American Home Shield.

So, I went online with American Home Shield and got a claim number immediately and a message that a technician would be calling me within 24 hours. I thought that it was wonderful. I entered it on a Saturday night and someone was gonna call me on Sunday. I had a party a week later, so I needed it fixed immediately. Ultimately, however, I did not hear back from anybody on Sunday, so I called and got a recording saying that they were closed. So on Monday, I called the contractor. I have had three problems that were not resolved. The first one was the dryer that was broken. I called AHS and a technician came and cleaned the thing out. He came out again and he said he could not fix it. I told him he only needed to clean out the vent which goes up to the roof and he said that he does not do that. So, I called another service that cost me $120, and they went up on the roof and cleaned it.

There was also a problem with my dishwasher that started February and AHS sent a guy but he couldn't figure it out. He said that they have to take it apart and then they need a motor on it. So, I called them back and I said that the problem was still not resolved and the water was still sitting there. I asked if they would send somebody else out there. Another plumber then came out and he right away said that it was the way the dishwasher was made by the manufacturer and he could not correct that problem. I asked them why did not they tell me that from the beginning. I should not have gone through all that. I already paid $50 to American Shield and I did not get any results yet. Then, the girl on the other end was telling me that I was breaking the contract.

The recent problem was I've had a plumber out to check the drains to see why it was backing up and the smell was too bad. Under my sink, there are three connections for the dishwasher, the garbage disposal, and the sink. They're all connected going down on. The technician didn’t clean it out or look at it. He simply said it wasn’t working. I paid $24 out of my pocket. He also didn't touch or look at the garbage disposal and it still backs up. He said that I gotta do something about that smell. I thought they were gonna do something, but nobody did anything. When I called AHS, they said the contractors aren't gonna do that one because I waited too long. I told them that the guy didn't do anything. I also paid $25 for the part, but I'm still not getting any results.

Then, I called plumbers who don't charge you $75. It's only $50 or $60. So, I said I'd call a plumber and maybe I could take care of the part myself and fix it with a P-trap. The garbage disposal has probably a clog in it, which I told him, "Why don’t you just use it so you could get it cleaned up?" But he never even touched it. I was left hanging, and the smell from the garbage disposal could turn out to be dangerous for our health. I have paid $150 for the same problems that have never been resolved or told me what I could do about it. I've been upset and couldn’t even sleep last night thinking about it. I'm 75 years old, I live alone and I don't have money and the time to find anybody to help me so, I got to deal with what I have. What's the use of having the contract if it's not working? They're a money maker because every time I try to solve something, all I got to do is send over $75 to do it. I would not recommend AHS.

I have had American Home Shield for 2 years and had only called them one time each year. Both times I never got prompt service. The HVAC technicians always took over a 2 weeks and counting, to get something serviced and repaired. My house was constantly in the low 90s every day. AHS kept saying they understood my frustration and never helped resolve any problems I have had. They merely band-aid and do the bare minimums to every problem they come across. Currently they said Kentucky is too busy right now and I would have to find my own licensed and insured HVAC company and pay out of pocket for repairs and be reimbursed later, only if they say it is covered. Most HVAC companies don't want to look at something for AHS.

I don't have the time, knowledge or money to search for and pay a company to spend hours troubleshooting my system to which may not be covered with my home warranty. That is too much responsibility for customers, especially when working all day and getting home after business hours to a house without air conditioning. Every time I call about my claim or problem they act clueless and I get a different response or suggestion every time I call. At some point a professional company should call their customers or contractors and follow through with them to make sure proper action is taking place. I first started with this company to have some peace of mind knowing if something happened I would have AHS there to support me in that time of need. I never thought that I would been neglected to a point where they basically ignore my problems and concerns and basically tell me to do their job for them.

I put in a request for service to AHS, which is pretty simple to do. They sent it to Rapps. I got a email telling me they would call within 72 business hours. Weekends do not count. They called within the 72 hrs, barely. They sent a tech two days later as promised. He diagnosed a bad ac compressor. I was informed he had filled out the paperwork and submitted it to AHS. He said they should be back in about three days. A week goes by and I have not heard from either company. I went to my AHS account and see they put complete on the repair and charged me $80.00. I called Rapps which takes a minimum of 1 hour phone time to get through and then it is 50/50 whether it will drop your call or put you through. They show the work was done and completed.

I explained nothing was done but paperwork and I was waiting on the compressor. They talked to the tech and I was told they would phone it to AHS for authorization and let me know when they were coming. The next day I called AHS they tell me the work was completed. I explained again nothing was done. They checked and said they would call Rapps and get it, of course they could not get a call through either. AHS says, "We will follow through and get the claim paperwork." Three days later I called AHS, could not get through to Rapps. They are still looking the paperwork but will call me tomorrow and decide if it is covered or not and how to proceed. I am not holding my breath they will call but the wait time on their call service is only at 30 minutes. I keep hoping they will stop blaming each other and fix my AC.

I had a Fidelity National Home Warranty for 5 years with no problems but decided to try a new company. The customer service for American Home Shield is horrendous! First of all after the sales pitch over the phone with a charming person I decided to go with it. She said I could cancel anytime and within the first 30 days there would be no charge. They make you wait 30 days for the service to begin. I received my contract in the mail with the wrong address and wrong email address. I don't know how it got to me only that the postman knows us.

I called the next day which was a Saturday to fix the problems, the recording said to pick billing. It rang and rang and went to hold music playing. I held for ten minutes with no answer. I called back again same problem. The third time I chose service request...the recording asked for a broken item so I made up one. Got someone after a lengthy hold who was able to fix the address and email. He also informed me the billing dept was closed on weekends!! Why didn't the recording state that??? Today I called to have #12 on my contract the re-key option explained...Again many calls to find someone to help after lengthy hold times...they did not know what I was talking about. I was so frustrated.

I asked for the phone number to call to find out info about the contract and the rep had no clue. I called two more times on two of the 6 different numbers they referenced on the contract and left messages to be called back. When I was called back, the recording says you are first in the cue... You wait again on hold for at least 10 minutes till someone answers... at this point I wanted to cancel! The rep said I had to call another number for that!!! I did, waited on hold for almost 20 minutes and cancelled. During my hold time I called Fidelity National Home Warranty and reinstated my contract which will go into effect tonite. Please call Fidelity! They have excellent customer service which to me is everything!!

I cannot even begin to express my extreme disdain and disappointment with American Home Shield. I requested service for a broken refrigerator on Thursday, May 17th; AHS assigned me to a contractor who was unable to complete the service request until Monday, May 21st. I called AHS to request a new company that would be able to service my request more timely and they informed me that since the repair company was replying within the required 48 BUSINESS HOURS, that they are not able to assign me to a new contractor.

After several attempts to complain and receive more timely service, AHS refused to transfer my request and required me to wait until this morning for my repair. The repair technician did come to my house but came unprepared with the necessary items (Freon) to repair my refrigerator and explained that they would send someone out by Wednesday, another 2 days of waiting. I have now been without my refrigerator for 5 days and counting!

Upon trying to call customer service today to rectify the situation, not only was I lied to, but also hung up on and left on hold in excess of an hour. I have had to call back several times, each with a half hour hold, only to be told there is nothing they can do to help me. I am now not only going without my refrigerator for a week but will have to expend more time and money to accommodate the poor service provided by AHS. I do not recommend a home warranty with this company and would go with any of the several other companies out there.

Had problem with AC in September of 2016. It took over a month to fix it. It is South Carolina. In September we have 90+ F. But now, May 2018, I found out that repairs weren't done properly and my AC shut down again. First assigned company didn't even bother to call for 3 business days. Called AHS to get different company to fix my AC since first one appears too busy even to schedule an appointment. Second company comes in, diagnoses the problem, submits an order to AHS. AHS does not want to pay for equipment, sends different company to do the same job - to diagnose the problem. They find out that the same equipment is needed. So instead of ordering part and fixing the problem I am sitting third week without AC and God only knows WHEN it's going to be fixed. It is end of May in the south.

Updated on 05/30/2018: It's been 4 weeks when I ordered repairs for my AC. Had 3 contractors scheduled to come to my house. Last week was told they can't work because of rain. It stopped raining but don't see any technicians working. Tried to call contractor - just got a message. No response. AHS was told a year ago do not send A-1 Affordable Appliance and Air Repair to my house. Thanks to them I already spent a month without AC a year ago. Guess what. That's A-1 Affordable "doing" repairs to my AC again. Asked for headquarters phone - was told they don't have to give that information to me. After my last complaint was told somebody will contact me about my issues. Guess again - did anyone contacted me? NO. Next I will be going to Better Business Bureau with complaint. After that - I assume there will be legal matters to attend to.

My claim for replacement of a leaking GAS WATER HEATER for $ 1,238.40 was TWICE denied by the AHS "Claims Review Team", in-spite of my having given prior authorization by an AHS service agent, after American Home Services not being able to locate a contractor willing or able to do the work, in a reasonable time frame. TWO contractors were suggested; both told me that they could not schedule a visit until the following week; on Wednesday at best. HOT WATER IS NOT A LUXURY, that would have meant at least one week without running water in our house. After being advised by AHS to find my own repair contractor and then submit the bill to AHS, I bought a new heater and got a Certified Plumber to install it.

I started having trouble with my hot water heater and put in a service order with AHS. The plumber that was sent (PRO-TEC PLUMBING AND DRAIN) told me that my hot water heater was not leaking and the water trickling down my driveway was just condensation... He also lowered my water pressure- which of course would slow a leak but def not fix a hot water heater. The issue was not resolved so when I saw it again I contacted AHS and told them what happened and that I did not want the same plumber.

They sent the same plumber who this time said that the expansion tank was bad and needed to be replaced-- 175$$--- not covered by AHS. The leak continued, I contacted AHS again, they sent Bay Mechanical. The plumber then told me that the last guy had put the expansion tank in wrong and I did in fact need a new hot water heater. The chat transcript is my follow up with AHS. Also, AHS is impossible to get in touch with except through chat... which clearly also gets no-where.

The service provider clearly isn’t doing an adequate job as they came out and determined we needed a new motor, another tech brought said motor and installed it and cannot figure out why it doesn’t work, original tech comes back and realizes they gave us a broken motor (how could the second tech not realize that?), and now days later we’re still waiting. Cannot get anyone from AHS to respond and keep sitting on hold for ages. I’ve been told the furnace needs to be replaced, but they’re avoiding doing that and doing the least amount of work possible. Our policy expires in 6 weeks and I certainly won’t be renewing. What a waste of time and money.

That took a couple of weeks because they had to order a part from Maytag. That was fine because it was not an emergency and the refrigerator still works.

I use American Home Shield for things that are not emergencies or urgent because I don't wanna wait for days. And that's the only negative thing that I have to say about American Home Shield. I wish that for things like that, like a pipe burst and you need it fixed right away, they were faster. But other than that, AHS has been good. I've been with them for almost five years in this house and was with them for over 10 years in my old house. It's good to have them if you get stuff that breaks that's gonna cost a lot.

But some of the contractors they employ are less than par which has been a problem since I've been with American Home Shield. In the past, I had A to Z Plumbing over and over again and they never knew what was wrong. They had to come back three times 'cause they would forget a part, said that it wasn't under warranty, collected their money and just left. I then hired my own plumber and had it fixed. On the other hand, the recent contractor was excellent. I only had hot water coming out of the faucet. It was a clog and the cold water was completely shut off. The guy knew exactly what was wrong, had the part and fixed it right away. He was in and out in no time and did a very good job. I was very pleased with this company.

Service One was very good because I had a comparison from another service call. Before, I put the refrigerator on American Home Shield and it was not repaired. And this guy from Service One came in and he knew exactly what to do. It was a mistake in the manufacturing. They since have revised their manufacturing process on ice makers where they made it all one piece. He came in and put a silicon seal in there because what was happening is it freezes up every couple of weeks and I had to clean it with a hair dryer to loosen the ice all out and get it going again. The guy seems to have fixed it. And the whole thing’s been working better since. He’s very efficient, showed up on time, and worked on it and got it done.

I submitted the claim by phone since I like to speak with a live person, not a machine, and the gentleman was good. Later on, I got a phone call from one of the ladies from American Home Shield and she was kind of rude saying that in the near future my contract doesn't cover the bathroom sink. But that was their mistake, not mine.

It would be better if you have a live person instead of having the computer on what you're doing and the work order. I know that's not the way we do business these days anymore, but it would be more convenient for everybody. Call American Home Shield and do a contract. They give you a list on everything that they cover and you just call them for whatever repairs you got. They have a deductible and they go from there. Either they don’t fix it, they prorate it and they can just get a new one, whatever the issue is. I still wanna recommend AHS to my friends and I always do that.

He first checked the Freon and then checked something else. And then he took the top off, pulled the motor out and he said that the motor was the problem. He said he would change it so he went and got one off the truck, brought it and stuck it on there. It took about two hours to finish his job. I signed the paper and that was the end of it. One of my A/C units was completely dead and the other one wasn’t too far behind. A guy came out, checked the evaporator coolers on them and found them both leaking. The gentleman submitted the claim to American Home Shield then they called me back and told me what part they would cover and what I'd have to pay to replace both evaporator coolers or to replace both complete units. They were about 12 years old so I was thinking it might be time to get some new ones.

I informed AHS that I decided to replace the units but I didn’t go through the same company that had come out. I went through a different company, purchased two new units and had the two new units installed. Then I submitted a cash-in-lieu back to AHS for what they would have paid to repair the two and they're sending me a check for that.

American Home Shield is a good protection to have because I've actually used it on two different water heaters prior to the A/C unit problem and I had one replaced and the other repaired. I’ve had really good luck with AHS. My biggest problem is the scheduling. I work five days a week and every other Saturday so it’s tough to have to take off and sit at home waiting for somebody to show up. I told a contractor one time to call me 30 minutes before he was going to head to my house so that I can beeline it there and it worked out. But they just come out and give an assessment. They don’t repair it the same day so if they can do the assessment on a Saturday, it would be awesome.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield on the phone for an electrical issue and my interaction with the claims rep was great. The contractor who came in was very nice and very helpful. I was afraid it was gonna be an electrical problem, and he did a testing of everything because I’m gonna have insulation put in my house. We have some aluminum wiring in our home and I had one loose wire before that we had to have fixed. The contractor assured me that it was not an electrical problem and it had something to do with the fan connection. He was able to get everything taken care of and things are good at this point. However, it’s kind of confusing to me how the claim is done. When I call somebody, they do one issue, so every time there was a different charge. That’s the only issue that I have. Otherwise, I’ve been very satisfied with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield did well on the plumbing claim. We had a spot forming in the ceiling that they were worried about and they sent somebody out within two days. Sure enough, the spot got larger within those two days and the minute the guys came out and cut through the ceiling, it was soaking wet. It turned out we had a toilet flange that had been leaking for however long it takes to soak all the way through drywall and puddle up in there. The guys who came out did a good job. They were forthright and honest about our expectations.

The biggest problem that American Home Shield has is managing its clients’ expectations. We’re now three weeks into our fridge claim and we still don’t have a fridge. It has been very frustrating dealing with them. They seem to honor their word but they don’t really honor their time commitments. The repairmen who came out said they would get the paperwork in that evening. But it was a Friday so when we called the next day, it was Saturday and they were closed. By Monday, the serviceman still hadn’t turned in the paperwork and when we call American Home Shield, it takes forever to get a hold of them. Then it was gonna take three days for somebody to get back to us to see what kind of fridge they would offer us.

Each little thing takes longer and the next thing we know, we’re out three weeks for a new fridge and we’re living out of coolers. We’re not the Donner Expedition and we’re not starving to death. But that puts a sour taste in our mouth for what was, or still is, a decent company if they can clean up their act. If American Home Shield was upfront with us, it would be so much better. They should have said that they’re gonna honor their warranty and eventually get us a fridge but it’s gonna take them three to four weeks, possibly even a month. We can plan for that.

Trying to file a file a claim over the phone is next to impossible as well. When we initially get on the phone, there’s a recording that lets us know, “Don’t worry. You won’t be waiting no longer than five minutes.” And it’s true. Somebody gets back to us within five minutes and picks up the line. But it’s just an answering service. They build our expectations up that we’re getting a person to help in five minutes only to find out that it’s just an answering service because they’re too busy. And every time we pick up, it’s “higher than usual call volumes”, meaning the wait is longer than usual. If that’s the way it is all the time, that’s the usual, not “than usual”. In turn, that translates into lower than usual service except now, it’s become lower service as usual. It really is disheartening.

And because we are forced to wait in that line, we’re already angry by the time we get a hold of somebody. It’s not the employees' fault and to their credit, they’ve put up with our tirade. They’ve been very civil to us and helpful. We get their word, but it doesn’t really mean a whole lot anymore. When our sink was completely clogged up, trying to initially get a hold of them, liaise with them and work through the whole process was a nightmare. It left a bad taste in our mouth. But we paid $75 for each visit whereas it probably would have cost us $1500 if we took care of that on our own. The first person they sent out snaked 30 feet down the pipes and we thought it was fixed. But the sink backed up again so they sent out a scope guy who took a look. Then they sent out somebody else. American Home Shield did a good job. They’re value for the money and we really appreciate them.

American Home Shield has a decent service. I just hate to see screw-ups costing them so much. I would let people know what’s going on with their company but I’d still recommend them. They have good employees and their heart’s in the right place. The warranty is good for my wife because although I’m a handyman myself, I work off-shore. When something fails around here and I’m away for a month, my wife has somebody to call to service whatever.

It's been extremely easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. I do it over the phone and the reps I've spoken with have been very pleasant and accommodating. They'd always get back to us as to what’s going on and when things are happening. The contractors have been excellent as well. We've had a few in the past that were very questionable but American Home Shield doesn't use them anymore. Then after the repair, the appliances have been performing like they were when they were new. Recently, we had a problem with the dishwasher where the control panel went out. They ordered a new one, came, and put it in. And we were extremely satisfied. I would just highly recommend this warranty company to anyone who would be interested in a service on their home.

Submitting a claim with AHS is usually painless. I usually do it over the phone so I can speak to somebody. However, we've had a couple of miscommunications when we called. We were told one thing and then when the contractor came out, it was something really different. Their training needs to be upscaled. Also, their contractors are hit or miss. The most recent claim I filed was for my AC. The contractors came out late yesterday but they haven't fixed anything yet.

Our washer was making a bunch of squealing noises so I filed the claim and American Home Shield sent a technician. In fact, they had a couple of technicians come over on two different occasions to look at it. When they came, they already knew what the circumstances were. They looked at the washer and identified the fact that there was a bearing underneath it, on the bottom, that had been worn out. It was going bad and it needed to be replaced but they did not have the part to replace it with on the first visit. The first guy that came in seemed to imply that they should have known, based on the description of the defect, to at least have some basic parts available.

They did repair it and I’ve been washing clothes with it. But it is still making noises although it's not as bad as it was. At this point, I’m not sure as to whether or not I need to follow-up with anything. Still, American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do. It was the technicians and the companies that were a little off-kilter when they came in.

My wife submits claims online, but if I have to do it then I'll have to do it by telephone. My experience with the reps over the phone has been excellent and the contractor that’s been sent out has been fine and good to work with. The most recent claim was for a pipe that's between floors of a two-storey house. And we're still trying to track down where the pipe was leaking at. American Home Shield was trying to get the contractor that came for the pipe issue scheduled to come back out, but I'm busy. They’ve called, but I haven't been able to give them a time when I can be back there yet.

American Home Shield has been pretty good but sometimes I get confused. I have two separate policies where I have one in my house in Lindale, Texas and another in my house in Hawkins. And they're both taken out at different times in a month out of my checking account, but I'm still not sure which one’s which. Not that it makes any difference, but I keep them straight in my checkbook. If I knew which one was coming out at the beginning of the month and which one comes later in the month, it would help me ease my mind. Other than that, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield's service.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield about a month ago about my refrigerator and the contractor who came out was a decent young guy. He looked at the refrigerator and at first, he couldn’t figure out where the horrible noise was coming from. He was here for 45 minutes, listened to it, looked at it and got some information. And finally, he said that it was very expensive to fix. It had something to do with a major repair and he had to send some paperwork in but he didn't. American Home Shield said they couldn’t do anything until he sent the paperwork so he called him but he was out on vacation. Finally, he came back and they got it all taken care of.

If someone would call them on a Monday, it's hard to get a hold of them and they're probably gonna have a few minutes wait. Still, it was good working with them and I am totally pleased. I have recommended them to a whole lot of people and several of my friends have started using them just because I recommended them. But I wish they have some kind of program where I could get something out of it. Still, they’ did really good with me and I’m a faithful believer in them. They were always very punctual, decent and friendly.

The washer has been going on and off for a couple of weeks. The contractor came out and they told me that they needed to order a part which would take anywhere from five to ten days. Then, American Home Shield called me back and said they were gonna have to exchange the washer out which was okay with me. I gave the rep all the information except for two details on what the length was and what it was across.

I resubmitted the information back to them today and I’m getting a little frustrated. This morning, I was on the phone for at least an hour from one agent to another one. I was told how they value the calls and then, I'd wait for 10 to 15 minutes and then the phone went dead. I’ve been trying to get a hold of them but I can't. I got a washer that needs to be removed and replaced and I don’t have a whole lot of time to be at the house because I work. I’ll wait and see if they’re gonna do the replacement of the washer. If not, then I have to go to the other direction to have them send me the check, and then I will go and buy one myself.

When I've submitted claims to American Home Shield in the beginning, contractors came out and checked everything I wanted. They did piping, the plumbing and a couple of things. When they did the garbage disposal, they also did the sink and they checked the washer. And everything was fine. The garbage disposal and the faucet were taken care of pretty fast.

Something happened with the knob on top of the stove to the point where it just completely turned around instead of stopping at a point. And then at that point, the knobs on the right-hand side of the stove, the gas wouldn’t come on and the oven wouldn’t come on. I called American Home Shield and all of that was on point. They contacted the contractor to come out and look at the stove, then the contractor contacted me within two days and he made an appointment. He was there by next week based on my appointment time and he was very pleasant. He was informative as I asked questions. He put into order with American Home Shield so that they could approve what he wanted to do.

American Home Shield called me a week and a half ago and told me that they were going to replace the parts but it hasn’t been done yet. I was getting ready to give them a call and find out what’s taking so long. I’m not happy that my stove is not fixed yet. I’ve dealt with them several times since I’ve had them and I haven’t had any complaints before with the timeliness of service and what have you, but this one time it’s been almost a month. But I’m glad that I have the warranty. The cost of repairs are very expensive and it’s definitely worth it.

We've only owned the house for a year and a half. It's been a winter and the heat was not coming out of the heat pump. Opening the claim was good with AHS. What I'm not as happy about was it took over three weeks to get the right part finally approved. They had to keep going back and forth to ask for approval. I talked to the vendor and they told me that American Home Shield had first denied it. Then it took a while to repair so in the meantime, my bill went up really high because it was running on a fan on the heater which wasn't very good. But it's working fine now and when we get the warm weather then it gets cool. I had one other claim with that house for some plumbing and they were fantastic. We were happy with both of the contractors they sent for the claims.

I have opened the claim online but I called a couple of times. There was one time I was on hold for over an hour to speak to somebody and it was really bad. But once I got to talk to them, it was good and they were nice. They could work on the wait time when people call. That's the biggest frustration because things were broken and so I had to wait and take a lot of my personal time to contact them. For the most part, it's a good value to have the home warranty.

I'm absolutely pleased with American Home Shield. My AC was not blowing very cold air. So I called and their representatives were very good. Although I had a couple of other questions and depending on who I was talking to, there were some different answers which was a bit tricky. I finally got someone who knew completely what they were talking about and so I told the representative that I talked to someone the other day who said that they weren’t sure and they sounded confused. This representative said that if there are two different trainers and depending on which trainer they get, they get a different answer.

So I told the representative that they should get that fixed. Having been in the same situation since I worked in the call center before, I said that I hate it when that happens. Besides, when it comes to training trainers, some people are very by the book when there’s a gray area. Other than that, since the repair, my AC has been doing well.

He explained to me what he was doing and about the type of machine I had. So, everything went well.
