I am writing to warn potential buyers of this insurance away. On March 16th, American Home Shield sent a HVAC contractor here to assess why my furnace was leaking water. The service Tech said it was a clogged drain line. He advised it was fixed, and he left. They couldn’t get a local company and sent one here from over 60 miles away. We thought the problem was corrected. My furnace sits above our upstairs bathroom, and hallway. After two weeks, we noticed more water damage. The hallway ceiling falling in, stains on the bathroom ceiling, water leaking down into our kitchen, which is on the second floor. I had a general contractor go up into the attic, he advised that there was a huge puddle around the furnace.
I made another call to American Home Shield. They contacted a HVAC company that has a F rating with the Better Business Bureau, I didn’t know this till this company started jerking me around, and I looked them up. They determined that I had a busted heat exchanger. I waited about ten days, calling American Home Shield, then the contractor. One was blaming the other for the delay. After calls on a daily basis, sometimes more than 2 per day. Keep in mind, repairs on my home have gone from a 1300.00 estimate, to now over 8000.00 dollars. Got on the phone with one person, and was told that they only covered oil, and electric furnaces. My contract says otherwise. It is now May 9th. I still have a broken furnace. They called with a buyout for a 92% efficient furnace was 567.00. Seriously! Horrible experience, horrible service, F rated contractors. You aren’t getting what you think you are.
Hi Charlie,
I understand your frustration with the lack of customer service you have experienced to have your heating and air conditioner system repaired. Also, I understand that there are some noncovered cost as well as secondary damage that now applies. I would be glad to speak with you in an effort to resolve your experience.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for at 6 years and have used the services about 3 or 4 times. I am disappointed because only 1 time out of the 3/4 times, I have either paid out of my pocket or the claim was denied. The out of pocket did not concern me as much due to the fact, Freon was added to my AC unit and AHS doesn't pay but $10 toward the 1st pound, which is another whole story because that should be included. I paid the first claim about $600/700 for Freon. Not happy about that because if I pay per month for the warranty, after the co-payment is paid, refrigerate should be included. The second claim was for my tub faucets. The claim was denied because the faucet was off and they assumed someone else had attempted to fix it. That was bull and I am still upset because I paid $75 and still had to pay another company to fix it after the denial.
The first AC claim was in 2016 and serviced by a Newby Home Builders company. Didn't find out until the second claim but the only thing done at that time was a clogged pipe was unclogged and Freon put back in at my expense. No leak fixed or anything. The tech did tell me that my unit was old and pipes were rusty and he would note that my unit would eventually need to be replaced.
Fast forward to 2018. I placed a claim on Thursday, May 3, 2018 because my AC unit was not cooling the house. The service representative came out on Tuesday, May 8th to service my unit. He looked at the unit and told me that the unit was heavily damaged and he couldn't get a good reading to charge the unit, if he tried. I witnessed him take pictures while informing me that he could not fix it and would need to be replaced. He said he would write it up and submit for a replacement to AHS. I asked Ray, (the tech), what the cost would be to replace unit and he said about $1800. I thanked him and he said he would call in the diagnosis to AHS later after finishing up his additional calls.
Later in the evening, I received a call from the authorization department stating that my claim was denied. I questioned why and was told the tech said the unit was heavily damaged due to abuse. I was totally shocked because that was not told to me and also on my diagnosis sheet that was given to me, it simply stated "heavily damaged and can not get an accurate reading from unit". Nothing about abuse was told to me. I tried to explain to the authorization department that nobody has serviced the unit since the last American Home Shield AC visit in 2016 and the unit was 20 years old so normal wear and tear could be a reason for the damage. I also told the representative that in 2 years, we have had torrential rains, winds, hail, snow and other conditions that could damage an AC unit.
The authorization rep stated the tech told them it was not normal wear and tear. If a unit is 20 years, it would not be in perfect condition nor in tip top shape. The last time the unit was touched was by the contractor of AHS, did they abuse my unit? I called AHS twice to speak to someone on the issue. The first representative was rude and not helpful. Was told there was nobody that could overrule the authorization department and the only thing I could do was ask for a second opinion of another company coming out to look at it with a stipulation. The stipulation was if the second company diagnosed it different, I would not be responsible for the copay of $75 but if the diagnosis was the same, I would be responsible for another $75.
I also was told I had 7 days to request a second opinion. I again asked to be transferred to a supervisor, manager or given a Corporate office number because I am determined not to let this claim go denied. Again to no avail. I waited for an hour and called AHS again. Got a second representative that was a bit helpful. During this call, I did get a little further with my complaint. The representative stated she could elevate the complaint upward and management had 24 to 48 hours to respond. This was progress as the first rep. stated I could talk to no one further.
Being upset, I called the tech, (HVAC Services of Richmond) and asked him why did he tell me and the company two different stories. He stated he told me that the machine was heavily damaged, which he did, but he did not tell me that it was abuse nor that the unit was not damaged as a result of normal wear and tear or weather. He said he did not tell the authorization that, he only answered questions that he were asked and AHS makes their own decisions. I told him I'm very upset that you didn't attempt to fix, as he never put his tool on the machine to doing any testing, but told me that it needed to be replaced. He said all he could do was give AHS his findings but it's not up to him to approve or disapprove. I knew that but his report made them deny my claim and it's not proven that the machine was abused.
So I change the subject and ask how much would it cost if I had him do the work without AHS. He tells me about $3200. First the cost earlier was $1800 and now it has went to $3200. Fraudulent and Mistrust is how I now feel. He stated the price increase was replacing inside and outside unit while $1800 would be for replacing outside unit only because AHS only pays for what is broken and not both. I'm highly upset with this company. 1) for being a liar and 2) for trying to jack the prices up had I wanted him to do the work outside of the warranty. I never want to deal with HVAC Services of Richmond again and will not refer them to no one so if you ever have a AC/heating issue and HVAC is the contractor, please ask for another company. I will also contact BBB about this company.
Today, I contacted AHS and gave my story account again. The representative stated it was noted that I had called several times on the issue but asked if I wanted a second opinion. I asked to speak to a supervisor/manager. This time I was transferred to a supervisor(Anna, ID#**) and she stated she has looked over my account and see my concerns and assured me that my claim was being researched and reviewed. She stated she could not help me at this point because she is a supervisor in billing and assured me that I would be helped with my issue. She said give management more time to contact me back (It was not 48 hours yet). I will do that but I will not let this rest. I have been paying for this warranty for 6+ years and it states if the appliance could not be fixed, it would be replaced.
I will update my review on my findings but I will contact BBB and a lawyer if need be to get my unit fixed or replaced. Also, they will look into why in 2016 nothing was repaired and Freon was added. Why does the unit blow hot air... that tells me there is a leak that was not fixed in 2016. I am terribly upset and will not rest until it's taken care of. Please stay on top of this company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience

Could not fix leaking kitchen faucet previously. This weekend - washing machine was not working. Called them but the earliest available appointment would be tomorrow. Requested them for earlier appointment as an elderly person and children live there and need to use it. But they refused to help us out with earlier appointment. The agent was rude and did not want to cooperate and hung up on me while I was talking. Today I canceled the contract. Lost money - monthly premiums, service fee and cancellation fee. They do not keep up with their works - do not use them.
I understand your concerns about the delay in service to have your washing machine repaired. Also, I am aware that you contract was canceled today. I would be glad to speak with you about your experience.

The air conditioning was not working and I tried to submit a claim to American Home Shield online but it didn't work so I did it over the phone. The problem with the air conditioner was, American Home Shield paid for a brand new air conditioner which was installed on April 16th and it ran fine from April 16th until the day before yesterday when it just stopped all of a sudden. They sent a technician out and gave me a four-hour window but the guy did not make it out until 8:00 last night. The air conditioner came back on and worked but within 15 minutes of the technician's departure, it was off again so I went back in and did another report.
American Home Shield called me this morning and a young lady asked me what was wrong. I told her that I do not know what was wrong but my husband thinks he knows what the problem is and I told her we need someone from the company that is working on this air conditioner who knows how to troubleshoot to come out and take a look at it. Because if they just send a technician, some of them are new and doesn’t know what the problem is. They go through and may get the machine working, but within 15 minutes it’s gone again so I have indulged the company that is working on this air conditioner because they installed it.
American Home Shield’s been great and I love them. When I tell them I have a problem, they try to fix it for me. If I have a problem with the contractor company, they’ll send somebody else out there and I have had that happen before, but only with the air conditioner. When I had a claim for my washer and for my stove, the young man who came from the company that repaired my stove, washer, and dryer was fantastic. He came in, went right to work and knew what he was doing. Although I don't know how American Home Shield chooses the companies that they're going to work with for people, I know that they can get a bad one every once in a while who doesn't know what they were doing. But for the most part, they knew what they were doing.

The AC was making a noise when I turned it on and it wasn't cooling. I submitted a service request online with AHS then the tech called me within 24 hours. But there was bad weather and I was only available on a Saturday, so we had to reschedule. They offered to come out the next day but I wasn't available. So, the tech came out the next Saturday and he was professional. He rang the doorbell, said he was here for the AC repair, and he talked to my husband about what was going on.
They gave us a quote that it was gonna cost $600 to replace the compressor and Freon. Then they said the whole AC needed to be replaced and that was gonna be $7,000. I thought my home warranty was gonna cover more than that but I didn't read the fine print somewhere. Then, this supervisor from the AC company called me back on the next business day and offered me $2,000 off of that. He also explained how they partnered with Wells Fargo on financing and I didn't know why they couldn't have offered me that price the first time. Other than that, I also used AHS for my dryer and that worked out. All in all, since we have older appliances, having the warranty might be good.

There was a water leak so I filed a claim and it was easy to do it. The first attempt with the contractor was very bumpy. The repair didn't happen on the time that they promised. They kept on moving me all day. So, I had to wait for them all day long. I was scheduled for 8:00 AM and they ended up showing up around 5:30 PM. They did the work and left. But on the second visit, the follow-up visit, the issues were fixed. But because they couldn’t fix it on the first day, they gave me a discount. They apologized for the first inconvenience, which was a good thing. My experience was very good, overall. It was very easy to work with them.

We had a dryer that wasn't working and AHS called somebody out to look at it. They tried to order a part but they couldn't so, we ended up having the dryer replaced. Then we had a ceiling fan that wasn't working. We called AHS, paid our $75, then they had somebody come out and they replaced it. So, it's been pretty good. I filed our claims online and it was very easy. I liked doing it that way and I didn't like having to call. All in all, I would recommend AHS because they're easy to use. Their coverage is also very good on things inside the house and it's not a small, limited coverage.

My ice maker was not making ice, so I called for the technician to come and check it. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and my interaction with the rep was wonderful. Those are the nicest people I ever talked to. They were very cooperative and I liked that because we don’t get customer service anymore. While the tech was here, he said he was going to have to order a part and I asked him if he would change the bulb out for me, and that was when he realized something was wrong with that also. I’m waiting for him to come back now. Bennett Electric called to let me know that the part was back ordered and that they would be back as soon as it came in. They’re wonderful people also. The tech attempted to fix the ice maker, but it’s still not working. When he comes back out with the part for the light, he would also look at the ice maker again.
American Home Shield is very friendly and family-oriented because I talked to a girl and we carried on the conversation like she was my daughter. I also like the personable relationship that I have with them. Anytime I call, on the same day, I get a text letting me know that I will be contacted by Bennett Electric. By that evening, they contacted me and the next morning, the rep called and let me know what time they were coming out or when they’ll come back the next day. The service is wonderful.

I have AHS warranty on two appliances we are worried about, our AC and our water heater. I then filed a claim for the water heater because the water it was producing wasn't as hot and it would last significantly less than it normally would. After the contractor had it fixed, I couldn't take a shower if I use the maximum setting because it was too hot. So, before there was definitely something. AHS is a good service. If you have older appliances, definitely get AHS.
Hi Lyle,
We would like to thank you for the feedback about your most recent American Home Shield experience to have your water heater repaired. We are glad to hear about the contractor that did a good job and the efficiency of the repairs.

I had a crack in my toilet sink and then the following day our sump pump broke. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online. Then they emailed me back to let me know that the plumber would be contacting me to schedule. That was fairly quick because it happened over the weekend. I heard back on Monday and then we had someone out on Wednesday.
The contractor was great because he took care of both of the issues when he was here. He wasn’t gonna be able to come back until the following week to fix the toilet. He had to get a whole new toilet but he ended up coming after a couple of days later. And so it ended up working out. The only thing is I was supposed to have a credit on my account and they didn’t use that credit. They charged me. But that’s just something I need to call them on to make sure that will be fixed.

I had no heat and submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. Everybody at their office was very good, including the person I spoke to. The guy they sent walked in, flipped the switch of the heating unit, and it came on. The whole thing turned out to be my fault when I threw a towel over something the night before in the garage and it inadvertently flipped the switch shutting off the on-off switch. I thought I did everything. I checked the batteries on the thermostat and flipped the switch off on the furnace. Nevertheless, the technician was very nice. He felt terrible and said that he'd look while he's here and checked on a couple of other things, including the filters for me. But I'm happy that's all it was. If American Home Shield can fix it, they won't replace it. They fixed my refrigerator a couple of times and changed the compressor. Still, I really wish I'd get a new refrigerator, but they keep fixing it.

We had a garage door problem that was related to an electrical issue. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield and paid online, and everything went very well and smoothly. The contractor called me, but I was really busy and my schedule was very tight back then, so they came after three days or so. They were calling me all the time to schedule and reschedule a service call, but all the times that they were giving me weren’t possible for me. They were available only in the morning and not in the afternoon or evening, but I couldn’t be at home at that time to have the problem fixed.
But, at least, the contractor was calling and trying to schedule different dates until I was finally able to go in the morning. The contractor was very nice and took care of the problem right away and very quickly. The customer service was very good. The unit has worked perfectly since it was repaired and its performance has been outstanding. I would recommend American Home Shield and tell a friend to get the warranty.
Hi, Marcos. Thank you for letting us know that the service request worked out although the scheduling was not as easy as it should have been.

Two of the eyes on my stove went out. The claim process with American Home Shield and my interaction with the claims rep went smoothly. I have only filed two or three claims since I’ve been using them and everything has always gone smoothly. I called them and they gave me the contractor. They texted the information to me in five to 10 minutes. The contractor called later that day or the next day to set up an appointment. The technician was professional and on time. He came out and looked, and he needed to order a part. He came this morning and fixed the problem. He was very thorough, took out the part and cleaned it, put in the new part, and put the stove back together. He did his job and it was good, then he cleaned up and left. My stoves's eyes have been working since the repair. I would recommend American Home Shield. They’re very efficient.

I moved into a new home and ordered a locksmith service with American Home Shield to change the locks. I used the file claim feature online which went smoothly. I submitted it, paid, and got a text message that said my file had been submitted and I would hear back from the locksmith service within 24 hours. But I waited and didn't get a callback. I filed the claim over the weekend and the locksmith service might be closed which caused the delay.
I went online to see if there were any status change and it said that I should call them within 24 hours. So it was confusing if I needed to call them or they would reach out to me if it was under normal business working hours. Other than that, everything with the contractor went great. He was on time, very courteous and he answered all of my questions. He checked the locks himself and he took the time to have me try all the keys on all the doors to make sure there weren't any issues. Everything worked fine and I appreciated it.
Thanks for sharing you experience Edward. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs thanks for choosing AHS. Have a great weekend.

They told me exactly what was gonna happen and when, and everything worked perfectly like they said. My air conditioner went out. It wasn't working properly. The bad thing was, it happened on a Friday and the techs couldn't come out until Monday. That always happens. But we were able to get that done. The tech was very knowledgeable and he had the part so he was able to fix it quickly. So it was good. But I had the most issue with my plumbing claim. Instead of replacing the whole faucet, the techs would only replace the handle. It's 16 years old and in my opinion, the whole thing needed to be replaced. I think they're just putting a band-aid on it then they will have to find a handle to replace it.
The other thing that happened was when the techs were trying to fix a leak, they broke the handle to my tub. And instead of replacing the whole thing, they were only gonna replace the handle. That meant I was gonna have to take another day off of work. They still haven't come out and replaced it because I still haven't been able to take another day off of work. I'm a school teacher and I'm waiting until this summer so I'll have another day in order to get that replaced. It's one of those things like a catch-22 with the warranty.
I love some of the things from American Home Shield and some of the things, I wish were better. One of the things I love was their quick response and overall, I am pleased with the service. I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield. My house is 16 years old and it's well worth the investment because you just never know at that point. I am a working, single female and so there's a lot of things I'm not able to do myself. American Home Shield is a nice security blanket for me that I can just go online, fill out whatever my issue is and that I know I'm gonna have a reputable company come out and fix whatever my problem is.

It took 24 hours for me to be contacted and an additional 48 hours to schedule a time for the plumber from Total Plumbing Inc. to show up. The faucet really needed to be fixed because it was dripping a lot. Then, when I went to use the microwave oven, it gave out those statics very high and I thought there was something electric, so I didn't use again. I also thought that the water was not draining on the dishwasher and I was not using it. So, I called American Home Shield for the repair of those things and the claims rep I talked to was very nice. When the techs arrived, they were both excellent. The first one came to fix the faucet. He had everything, he knew what the problem was, and everything was done. The other tech came in for the dishwasher and the microwave oven. He did his work, was very professional, and had papers for me to sign. He also had a computer to look into different things. But it turned out that the microwave and dishwasher did not need any repair. Everything has been performing well since then.
I'm comfortable having a home warranty because in case I need something for repair, I only call AHS. In the past, I go to Home Depot or I call somebody that somebody told me to call. It's better to have one place to shop for those situations instead of going to Home Depot or call a friend. That way I know that when AHS sends somebody to my house they are professional people.

The phone number is not even our area code and they were trying to send someone from Illinois, two hours away when we're next to the third largest city in the state and it should have been somebody local. So, when I told them that, they got me someone else. Again, someone I'd never heard of, some small mom and pop type shop. When I went online after this company set the appointment, they had horrible reviews. Prior to that, I made a claim for a dryer a month and a half ago and AHS was very efficient. They got somebody out within an hour. Both the website and the rep were very effective. The tech was out here for about 45 minutes and got everything up and running. It was excellent.

Submitting the claim for the AC that wasn't working was a quick and simple process. I went online and told American Home Shield the issue. Then they sent me an email or a written notice about the company that will be coming out. I then spoke to the third party in regards to setting up the appointment. The contractor came and introduced himself and was straightforward. I showed him what the issue was and he fixed it then left. He took one visit and didn't take long at all. The AC unit is doing its job since the repair and so I have no complaint. So far, American Home Shield has not disappointed me.

I had a problem with my air conditioning and I called up AHS on a Saturday to submit my claim. The wait time could be 20 minutes sometimes. But regardless, I waited on hold and I had gotten somebody. Right away, they gave me a company to be contracted out, who was supposed to get in touch with me. The company got in touch with me the next day, a Sunday, and set an appointment. The came and resolved the issue by Monday. However, part of it was covered under my contract, but part of it wasn’t. They told me that I needed Freon for my air conditioning, but it was not covered so I had to pay for that out of pocket using a credit card. Then they called up later to make sure the issue was resolved and everything was okay. And to make sure that I gave them the payment for the service.
Two years ago, AHS sent a company called Temprite and they tried to scam us to buy a new compressor. I called AHS and I told them that Temprite was trying to get me to buy a new compressor, which was not covered by AHS. And in the end, all I needed was a $10 part. I was out of air conditioning in 90-degree weather for two weeks and I was nine months pregnant. It was a very upsetting time. However, when I called AHS and complained, they never took Temprite off. I told AHS that I never want to hear Temprite again when I called up for a problem. AHS is good for what they’re good for. You think that when you’re paying a $1,000 a year, everything would be covered. But a lot of things are not covered and a lot of times they try to make it a customer not maintaining their home. But beyond that, they try to get somebody to your house right away when you have an issue.

They are just great at American Home Shield and they always find somebody that will do the job here locally and they're always pretty good people. They are very professional as this is what they do for a living. I had a hot water heater and the bottom went out on it and flooded several rooms. American Home Shield got in touch with somebody about the hot water heater. They had to shut it down and get it out of the house. They had to put a new one in and it's operating quite satisfactory. I would recommend AHS.

The dishwasher wasn't cleaning and water wasn't getting into it. It took a couple of days for the technician to come out. He was very good and informative. He answered questions about what was going on and he described everything that he was gonna do, the timing, and the parts that he was ordering. Originally, he thought that the problem had something to do with the tubing inside being blocked so water was coming out of the bottom of the dishwasher. But it turned out that one of the pumps on the bottom had sprung a leak so he had to repair that. He replaced a lot of the water system. Since the repair, everything has been working very well and the dishwasher is functioning 200% better than it was before. I was very satisfied with the experience. So far, having an American Home Shield warranty on my property has been very valuable.

We got the gift of American Home Shield warranty from our realtor and it's certainly something that I value now. When we moved into our new house, the shower would stop while we were taking a shower. The water would also come up our ankle joints and it was just annoying. I went online to inform AHS that I needed a plumber and a plumbing company called me in 15 minutes. Then, the contractor also called me to tell me when he was gonna arrive 30 minutes before and he did. He was very professional and was very good in the little stuff that I appreciate as a homeowner. He put boots on to walk through my house and always closed the door when he was going in and out. He was great.
The other plumbing issue we had was the leaking bathroom faucet. The guy came in five minutes, opened it up, made a little change to it, and fixed it perfectly. And we've had no issues since. With all the four claims I've filed with AHS, it has been very easy with them. I don't have to deal with many people too. It's been a valuable experience with this company.

When the shower was leaking, we called American Home Shield and they called us back. We made an appointment and the plumber came and fixed it. It was a fine experience. Then we had a garage door issue and our experience was horrible. The garage door wasn’t working, so we called American Home Shield the same day and made an appointment. They called and said that they can work with that. Then the guy came out and said that our spring needed to be replaced, but it was not covered under our warranty.
He said they don’t cover the spring and I said that the garage door was supposed to be covered. I also told him we’ve had the exact same problem a couple of years ago and it was covered. He said it wasn’t and we had to pay for it. I asked how much and he said it was $375. It was Friday afternoon and I couldn’t get my car out of the garage and at that point, I told him he had to do it. No one else was gonna be able to do it until Monday and there was nothing I could do.
I called American Home Shield and asked if they were not fixing the garage door. They said they cover the garage door opener but not the spring. I said that they covered it the last time and they said that they weren’t covering it now. They said they were taking my $100 copay for when they sent a guy out. I said I wanted to talk to a manager, so they sent me through to a voicemail. I left a message, but there was nothing. I called back again and left another message, and I’ve never heard back from him. And then they charged me the $100 a few days later, so now I paid $475 for a spring for my garage door.
The last time I called American Home Shield, I told them that when I called and explained the problem to them, they should have told me it wasn’t gonna be covered and the garage door company should’ve told me as well. No one said anything. American Home Shield just said they can take care of it. I’ve looked through coupons and other companies and there were tons of garage door coupons in mailers saying $150, $175 or $200. So, I’ve paid over double. I would not refer American Home Shield. It was really dishonest of them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The refrigerator was not making ice. Moreover, it had that filter system in the door and we couldn't get water through. When we bought the house, we were given a number to call and was told that they would, in turn, contact someone else. But I contacted American Home Shield and within a day or two, a contractor came out. He came in and asked us what the issue was. Unbeknown to us, the water was shut off under the sink. We looked everywhere for a shut-off, tried everything, and didn't know that it was over there. He was very nice and took the time to explain why it was underneath there. It was all-around good except for the fact that cost me $75 to find out that the water was shut off. I'd tell others that getting AHS was well worth the money.

I have been a member of AHS for over three years now and recently our refrigerator stopped working. I requested a service call online, and after being asked to identify the make and model of the refrigerator, received a service date to take place five days from the request. When the technician showed up, he took one look at the refrigerator and said that he needed to order some parts and I would be notified of another date when the parts would be installed. He was there less than five minutes (and I took a day off of work to wait for them). The next day I was given a new date for repair (scheduled a week later) and told to unplug my refrigerator at least 24 hours prior to the service, which meant removing all of my food both in the refrigerator and freezer.
When day that the scheduled service provider was scheduled to show up and make the repairs, (after I had once again taken another day of work off to be there), I received a phone call less than an hour before they were scheduled to arrive and told that all of the parts that were needed had mistakenly not been ordered and they needed to order the missing part and would need to reschedule the service for installation (which would not be until the following week). When I asked why the missing part could not be shipped overnight, so that the repair could take place the following day, they said that AHS was responsible for ordering the parts and that I would need to call them.
When I called AHS and explained the situation, they told me that there was nothing they could do because their policy was to not pay for expediting parts. When I explained that this was my refrigerator and that I had already unplugged the unit and removed all of the food from it, they once again stated that there was nothing that they could do because it was company policy. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, they said that none was available, and when I persisted, they stated that it was company policy that they were not allowed to transfer a customer to a supervisor, and that there was nothing that they could do.
So, basically what I heard was... "I understand that you have been inconvenienced on two occasions, and will be inconvenienced once again because of a mistake that we made when ordering the parts for your refrigerator. And that you have no way of keeping food cold or frozen due to the fact that we asked you to unplug your refrigerator for the repair to be made, which now cannot be made for yet another week. But that's company policy and we really are not willing to even consider working with you to come to some sort of accommodation to help you during this time, even if it means making an exception to have the missing part (which we forgot to order the first time) shipped next day. If you don't like it, that really not our problem or concern. Have a nice day." To say that I am pissed is an understatement.
I understand your frustration with the level of customer service you have experienced as well as the delay to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I have not been able to speak to a supervisor during any of my 5 calls to the company or to the Headquarters consumer VP on whose line I left a voicemail. I still receive notices of a past due amount. Each person I speak to on the phone promises it will be rectified and it is not. My experience with American Home Shield so far has been great and we're really happy with it. I am very pleased because we had gone with another home warranty company earlier and American Home Shield is much better. American Home Shield was recommended by the realtor who sold us our place as well as the gentleman who was the occupant before.
We had just moved into our place in the middle of December and just months ago, the microwave went out. I initially did the claim process over the phone because I wanted to connect with a human, but I got the actual confirmation and such in my email. American Home Shield sent somebody out to look at the microwave, and apparently, the part called magnometer had gone out. They had to order it and then they came and installed it in about a week or two. That was great, and it was so easy and so smooth. Also, the people who came out were super, very personable, and very convenient. The performance of the appliance has been perfect since it was fixed and everything is working fine.

We've tried to fix ONE item in our house, our Whirlpool bathtub. They sent out a plumber, who said we needed an electrician (the tub pump wouldn't shut off). The electrician said he couldn't fix it either. We were billed $75 for each service visit, paid one of these and AHS promised to waive the second one. THEN they scheduled the SAME plumber and the SAME electrician to come back out again, and charged us $75 for each visit. We intercepted the plumber and canceled the appointment. The electrician refused to come out again as he knew it was a waste of his time. AHS promised to remove both charges for workmen who never came to our house.
After a month and five long telephone contacts, the issue has not yet been resolved. First they removed one charge. Then they removed the other charge and reinstated the first charge! All the while, the website is useless for actually showing what is going on, and we continue to get "overdue" notices weekly! Final tally so far: we paid 3 $40 monthly fees and a $75 service charge (total $195) and we still have a broken tub, and have spent WAY too many hours on the phone.

The technicians came out within a reasonable time, I think a day or two, and told me what was wrong and what it would cost me to fix it. Then they had to put a claim in or talk to the people at Home Shield. And within a week, it was fixed. If this happened in the summertime, that would not be reasonable. The technicians were friendly and very professional, and did the work in a timely manner. They probably could’ve fixed it in a faster way if they would’ve had the part but they didn’t have the part, they said. AHS did a good job and my house is very cool now. I'm a real estate agent and I was working on behalf of my client. The corporate client had American Home Shield on the policy. I've done a claim many times. We have to call and schedule and then they have a vendor call us and then we have to meet him and get the work done. The representative was alright but the vendors that they had given us a couple of them have been really bad and I actually complained about them.
The guy didn't come out and finish the work and I told him what had to be done on the toilet. He claimed that wasn't on the work order, he had no time to do it and had to reschedule. He was very belligerent and left. And I had to reschedule and have him come out and fix another item that should've been fixed initially. So I was very disappointed with the service provided by the plumbing vendor that was provided to us.
AHS told the guy to come back out and fix it and that's what he did. But I shouldn't have to go into that lengthy process. It should've been fixed the first time. But other people they've sent out on other items have been good. And I haven't had a problem with their customer service people. The customer service people have always been very polite and taken care of our needs. It's just when they refer out the vendors is when we had the issue. We also have to wait to get them to answer the calls. If you don't have an inside number you could be on the phone for quite a while on hold.

I’m a real estate agent, so I recommend American Home Shield all the time. I recently made a claim via phone for appliances that weren't working properly and the claims rep was good. It took two days for a tech to come out but he did a good job and repaired the appliances. However, I didn't care for his attitude. You ask him something and he'd have a real short snide comment, as if you were bothering him.
The first time he came out, I was talking to him when he was looking at the dryer. All of the material was there for the exhaust, but someone had unhooked it prior to me moving in. So, I told him the dryer didn’t work and he was like, “Well, what’s wrong with it?” I said it didn't work and then he asked me something else. I said, “This is not my line of work. I don’t do this. If I did, I would’ve fixed it myself.” And then as far as the exhaust he said, “Well, I’m not going to do that. You got to do that yourself.” And it was the way that he said it. In my mind, if you’re going to repair the dryer, then you’re gonna hook the exhaust up to it. But if that’s not what you do, then you don’t have to be nasty about it.
They had to order a part and when the part came in, I didn’t receive a call. That was a little lengthy, waiting for that period. But when he came, the range was unplugged because of the part that it needed. It kept causing the stove to beep. And so, we would have to plug it up each time we wanted to light the pilot, and then unplug it. So, after that was repaired, he pushed the stove back and prepared to plug it up all the way up top, when it was apparent that that’s not where you’re supposed to plug a stove up. It was only like that because it needed to be repaired. I just had a contractor put in a new receptacle where the stove is supposed to be plugged up at the bottom.
He didn’t even have it all the way pushed in. He had just plugged it in and was pushing the stove back. I said, “Can you pull it the rest of the way out and plug it up at the bottom where it’s supposed to go, please?” I said it real politely. He said, “You’re asking for too much.” Then I said, “Pull the stove back out and I will do it myself. I’ll plug it up where it’s supposed to be.” And that’s what I did. Then he said, “Well, I didn’t want to climb on top of your cabinet, I’m too big.” But he didn’t have to climb on top of the cabinet to do it. The plug is just above the floor level and he had it plugged up all the way up top where the GFI goes. Maybe that’s just how he is, but that’s not always acceptable.

We had a water leak recently in the shutoff valve manifold systems for the house and I was amazed at the company American Home Shield sent out. It was After Hours Plumbing and Heating, and they're one of the most reputable plumbers in the Wenatchee Valley. They got out so quick and they even called when they got here. They called again when they did a diagnosis. And then they called me to say what they were gonna do and approximately how long it would take to get the parts in since they had to be ordered. Lastly, they called when they told me the parts were coming in and when it was scheduled to be done. Since the repair, the shutoff valve manifold systems is not leaking anymore. They were very neat and tidy as well.
While the contractor AHS sent out did a good job of tying the new manifold into the existing plumbing, the first time we had a claim for the kitchen stove right after we bought the house was a horrible experience. For all practical purposes, it was a pain anyway. But the range was a downdraft and they don't make them anymore. The ones they do are quite expensive. And what happened was that they had the technician out quickly but he told us he couldn't get the parts. It took a week for American Home Shield to finally get back to us and say they couldn't get the parts because of age.
And they wanted to pull the old control board and send it in for repair. So that took another couple of weeks for them to have it removed and sent in. And then it took three weeks for it to get back. Meanwhile, we had no kitchen stove the whole time. When we got it back, it went out again the first time I used it. They said they would go ahead and replace it. Although, we decided not to replace because we didn't want a downdraft. It took another three weeks to get a cash-out option and buy another range. And then a couple of more weeks to get reimbursed for it. It was a long, drawn-out process that was very aggravating.
The second time we filed a claim was in the winter. It was projected to be in the low 20 that night and suddenly, our furnace stopped working. American Home Shield had somebody out within a couple of hours and got the furnace up and running. That was all we needed at the moment and it saved us from having any other problems until I could get the thermostat replaced. Overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield. They've done a good job the last couple of times. And the last couple of times have been more important than anything else.

Moreover, some of the metal stuff is just old. I didn’t know if AHS covered that or not, but I thought it was worth a shot before I went and spent $5000 or $6000. I submitted the claim online and then, the contractor called me back and priced it at $7000. But I already had a price for $3000 from another guy. The contractor never even came out to look and see if it was something they would do. If it wasn’t $400 a year with American Home Shield, I would’ve just told them I wanted to cancel and get rid of it.
I’m not a big fan of their process. I like talking to people instead of trying to do things online. They cover what they cover, but they need to make it a little bit easier on how they’re doing their claims. I had to put everything in online and with what they give you as options, it’s hard to explain some of the issues you may be having. Then you don’t hear from them until the contractor calls you and you end paying $100 for something that they might not cover. One time, I had them fix my hot water tank. The contractors they sent were good folks but you could tell that it was a family type of deal. They were not a topnotch name which is cheaper labor for AHS. But overall, my experience with AHS has been okay. The problem is not necessarily with them but with the contractors. I would tell others to go get AHS if they are willing to put up with it.

Great Renwick. That is what we like to hear. We appreciate you sharing your AHS experience. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have a great week.

I was having a problem with the heat and apparently, the heat pump and a sensor were not working properly. I submitted the claim online to AHS and the process was very good and easy. They sent out On Time Plumbing and Heating but the techs didn't know what they were doing. They said that it was a blown fuse so they replaced the fuse and left. And so when the next time that the heat came on, which they didn't test, the fuse blew again. We had to call again and they came out, and they changed the fuse. They tightened up a wire and then they fused the 3 amp fuse out for a 5 amp fuse. And that apparently was not what the problem was. The next time that the tech came on, it blew again so we submitted another claim online. They came back again and they didn't bother to try the heat on and they left. It never worked from that point.
Since it was still an open claim and since it was the weekend, there was no way to get a hold of anybody and ask AHS to send me a different contractor. At that point I was done and I was like, "Okay, they don't know what they're doing. They need to send somebody who does." And that's the only problem I have with the online process. Over the weekend or after office hours, if you have an open claim and you're not happy with the contractor, you're not getting ahold of anybody. We had an electrical issue some time ago and everything was wonderful. And I had not encountered this before. It was kinda like a perfect storm of everything. When I was able to get a hold of them Monday morning, they said, "Well, we can't ask for another contractor unless that contractor tells us that they don't know what the problem is." And I that was not okay with me. But they called me back and said that contractor said they didn't know what the problem is.
Then, we got Budget Plumbing & Heating. When I checked On Time Plumbing, they had great ratings on Google, and they did a terrible job. And then I checked the Google ratings on Budget Plumbing and they were not so good and I was like, "Okay not good ratings, maybe they'll do a great job." They came out and they did a great job. My mother was here and I was at work. They explained everything they were doing. They tracked down the original problem, which was with the sensor and the heat pump, which On Time Plumbing never even have seen or looked at. Budget Plumbing seemed to know that was what it was, but when I described everything to them over the phone, they said, "I think it's in the heat pump, that's the first place I'm gonna check." And sure enough, that was where it was.
They went out and fixed that and they came inside. They replaced the 5 amp fuse with a 3 amp fuse and said, "Nobody should ever put a 5 amp fuse in that unit, it's not rated for it. That could cause a house fire." And then because of that, a transformer had blown. They had to repair two things that were actually caused by On Time Plumbing. I don't ever want On Time Plumbing ever again and I will take Budget Plumbing. Somebody should put them in my file and say, "She only wants them."
My son who works for Roto-Rooter and is not a plumber yet, but is working on being a master plumber, came out. And when he was talking with the people from Budget Plumbing, they said, "Oh, On Time Plumbing used to be A & D Plumbing. But their ratings were so bad and their reviews were also bad that no one was using them and they were going out of business so they changed their name." And my son just went, "Oh my gosh, I've had to follow up and fix stuff they've done before mom." And so he said we should never ever have On Time Plumbing.
I'm a nice person and my mom is a wonderful person. And we are able to survive but if it was somebody that has a serious health issue that required a certain level of temperature or somebody who had anxiety issues, I'm glad that it was us and not someone with real problems who would've ended up being sick. I'm hoping that the horrible review I left for On Time Plumbing will tell American Home Shield not to ever use them for anybody. Other than that, if AHS can fix the weekend issue, I won't have anything to complain about. Because I understand that there are contractors who aren't what they say what they are.

It was easy submitting a claim online with American Home Shield. I did it for a garbage disposal leak. Everything was seamless. The first time that the contractor came out, he replaced the garbage disposal. He was quick and efficient but unfortunately, he made a mistake. He forgot to take something at the garbage disposal so I had to submit a second claim. They came out again and fixed it. Overall, it was a good experience with American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim recently for my Whirlpool tub as it was leaking downstairs. This is the 3rd time I have had an issue with my tub and American Home Shield hasn't fixed it. His & Hers came out and the tech referred it to Whirlpool since he doesn't work on Whirlpool tubs, but nobody came out. I also had some issues with one toilet. It wasn't secure and the stoppers needed to be replaced. Also, my kitchen sink needed to be tightened. The technician completed the job that he could complete.
Hi, Gail. I apologize that your Whirlpool tub issue has not been resolved. I do hope that you have spoken with someone for assistance on this matter.

We had a bad leak coming from the sink in one of our bathrooms that had to be repaired. I called it in at American Home Shield and they responded very quickly. I explained the situation and they said they would arrange to send somebody over to take a look at it. The service was excellent. The vendor they used came very quickly and on time, and was obviously very good at his work. He explained exactly what had to be repaired and what time it would take. Then we just agreed to move ahead, and he came back and did the repair that was necessary. Now everything is working well.

He came in, explained everything that he was doing and why he had to do that, and he was fast with it. The unit works perfectly since the repair and it has made the day-to-day operations in our home very convenient. American Home Shield is a good thing to get. It's a good deal and it works exactly like the way they say it works.

Having a warranty on my property is valuable because I bought an older home. Even with the home inspection, things are missed and go awry quickly. My recent claim with American Home Shield was for my air conditioner that wasn’t working. I called AHS to submit a claim. The claim reps were good and I had no issues with any of the people that I dealt with. Then AHS sent a contractor out and I dealt with the same company until the end. The techs came five times over a course of two months.
The techs came out, looked at my AC, and couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Then my AC stopped working again and they came out and determined that the compressor was out. So, they came back and put a new compressor in, but my AC stopped working again that night. Then the techs came back and said that a part wasn’t put in correctly, and they fixed this. Then my AC stopped working again and the techs came back out yesterday, and they determined that there was an electrical issue and I would have to call an electrician.

I was hearing running water even though everything was turned off. Eventually, I figured out that when I turned my main off to my condo, that the sound would stop so I knew it was a leak somewhere and I could pinpoint where the sound was coming from. I went online to file a claim on American Home Shield's site and it was very simple. I filled the claim form out and within a few minutes, I got a text saying I would be hearing from the name of a company they gave me and that they would be calling to schedule an appointment.
The contractor gave me a window and said if they could get out sooner, the plumber would come. They would give me a text and let me know when he was on his way. I got a text where it could track and it said, "We're on the way." And then I could track to see where the plumber was. The gentleman came early then I explained the problem to him and he tested to make sure. He cut a little hole in the wall and there was a leak right there. He pinpointed it right away and didn’t have to cut a bunch of holes. He was very friendly and also explained to me what usually happens and that I should leave the hole open for a while so that it could air out any wetness so it didn’t mold out. He knew exactly what he was doing and got it done quickly and so, all went smoothly.
But I still haven’t called back to see if they’re going to supply somebody to put the drywall patch in that hole because I had left it open. Right now, the weather is warm here so I wanna make sure it gets all dried out in there. The plumber explained to me that they don't do the finish, but they should do the patching and that’s fine. My aunt recommended AHS to me so going into it, I had an expectation that they would be really good and they have totally lived up to that so far so I’m happy and I would recommend them.

I've had American Home Shield for eight years now with the house and I've had nothing but great service with them. Plus, their customer service department is very helpful and knowledgeable. The most recent claim I had was for a water leak on a pipe. I was able to book everything online and then I contacted them and explained my concern and what needed to happen. I talked to Veronica and told her that when setting up a service online, you get to pick a category but you don't get to explain the concern. I wasn't sure if it was the hot water heater leaking or if there was a leak in the pipe, and so I was unsure of which one to select. I told her that it would be better and nice to be also able to put in some details when selecting stuff online so they can get the right company out. Then, they took care of everything and I had the service done within 12 hours. I have water back in my house so I'm happy. Everything is great now.

American Home Shield usually works pretty good. They send people out on a regular basis and they try to get the work done right. One time, my washing machine wasn’t working. I thought the circuit breaker was dead and it was something electrical but it wasn’t. It was an outlet that was bad on the wall right by the washing machine. I called in to submit a claim like I usually do and it was hard to get through. But the reps that I spoke with were very nice and they set up the appointment with the contractor for me. They sent an email for the technician to get in touch with me and the technician called me. A lot of times, if something was wrong, I would get the phone number and call the contractor first. But for this claim, it was the technician who called me first and it worked out fine.
The technician that was sent out initially told me that it was the outlet in the wall that was dead and we had to tear out the wall. But he fixed it without having to do all of that. He just scared the bejeebers out of me for nothing so I wasn’t that crazy about that guy. But most of the contractors who came out here were good and I didn't have any real problems with anybody. But I had a problem with American Home Shield concerning the sewage at my house when I went round and round with the plumbers. Some of the plumbers had some lies told about the issue and it was a really big mess. And as it turned out, they weren’t gonna fix the problem. So, I wasn’t happy at all with American Home Shield for that and I wasn’t happy with the technician that came out.
At another time, the heater inside my house was dirty and American Home Shield wouldn’t repair it because it hadn’t been cleaned. So I told American Home Shield to get back to me for the contractor to do it. Then something went wrong with the heater on the side of my house and American Home Shield said it wasn’t installed right and they wouldn’t fix that. That meant I had to spend extra money on the repair and I had to spend some more to get the inspection done. So, I had my issues from time to time but I worked it out and I didn’t want to see if somebody else was going to be better so I stayed with American Home Shield.
They're not a bad company and as far as I can see, they work with reputable people usually. But like all companies that are large, they’re only going by what the repair people say. The customer has something to say, too, but whatever it is, it’s the technician who’s always gonna understand what's to be done or not to be done and they have the final say on whatever it is. American Home Shield runs by company rules and that’s the best I could say about them. I would also recommend them.
Hello, Eugenia. Thank you for allowing us to Shield your home from costly repairs. We look forward to working with you for many years to come.

I had two claims recently with American Home Shield. I submitted them both online and the online experience was excellent. One of them was the dryer and that was kind of a bummer because the guy didn't address the problems I've got. He just said the pipe was clogged, the air flow out and I needed to take care of that. But there were some other issues and I threw it off and considered it a waste of my money. On the other hand I had the oven serviced and the contractor for that was really good. AHS is cool as long as you don't try and call up. When you try and call up it's too long of a wait and it's ridiculous.

I called American Home Shield about my pool pump that has been repaired previously and I kept having issues with it. When I submitted the claim, their reps were very courteous and understanding. It was a repeat problem and I thought there might be something wrong with the product that they were putting out here because I have called the pool people that came out twice and this is the same issue. That’s exactly what it was. AHS realized that and the third time, they sent a new company out and they didn’t charge me. The people that originally came put a reconditioned pool pump motor on my pump so it wasn’t up to par and that was the issue.
The technician did a wonderful job and fixed it right. My pool works better than it ever has. The technician was very nice, courteous and professional. He was on time and I love him. He went above and beyond the call of duty. He put good products on my pool and he even adjusted some stuff for me that I asked him to do. I am very happy with AHS and customer service was excellent. I’ve had other warranty people when I first moved here and they are far better than any of them. They were highly recommended to me by my sister. She told me that they were awesome and they have proven to be just that. I would definitely continue service with them and would highly recommend them to anyone including my family and friends.

My dishwasher broke and it started overheating. The contractor that was sent by American Home Shield got it fixed where it wasn’t stuck and now they gotta order another part for it. The repair was excellent. I had a washing machine that was fixed, too. Going online to submit a claim is a little bit easier but I won't know what’s gonna happen or when. I like talking to people to know when the repair is gonna happen or when things are due. Trying to call in, however, is a little bit difficult sometimes.
I had my AC unit fixed by ACC Heating and Air and I’m not too impressed with those guys. I don’t know whether it’s the language barrier of some of the people American Home Shield sends out or if these people are doing things by the book. I stood outside and watched the contractor do their service and it didn’t seem like they were doing what they were supposed to do. I also felt like they were overcharging me. They were supposed to put in 12 lbs. of freon and I only saw them put in four lbs., so I was not too happy about that. Things like that bothered me but I could not prove it because I was not there the entire time as there were times when the technician sent me inside to help with something. Also, when a contractor comes out and he does not have his tools, that concerns me. I had to go buy a $60 tool just to pull caps off the AC adapter myself.
I hope ACC Heating and Air got the AC fixed because I have not been running it yet to find out. But for American Home Shield to only give me 60 days to see if it is still leaking, that is a short time. It can take four to six months of running it constantly to deplete all the freon in the system. So, 60 days is a tough number if I can’t monitor the reading from the panel. There’s no way to know if it is losing freon and there is no follow up on something that is that expensive for $800 to fill it back up. American Home Shield does not come out and do a maintenance test to make sure that there is nothing wrong, while I know other home warranty companies that actually do that.
Sometimes I’m trying to find out what all of my policy covers and that is difficult because American Home Shield really does not sell it out and I got to dig or call to find out. So, they could update that a little bit. That way, I know what I'm having to pay for and what I'm not. My experience with American Home Shield is also all about who they send. I don’t have any issues with American Home Shield, but I would not recommend ACC to anybody.

The woman that lived in this house before me had American Home Shield and the warranty came with the house when I bought it. When I first used it, I could call up and it was before the internet was very popular. Then they said I could go on the internet to submit my claims. But when I have something going on, I wanna talk to a real person. I could still do that, so that's good. But a lot of times, when I called, they'd say I could go online. Other than that, they were all very nice and my interactions with them were excellent. They also tried to get me someone as soon as possible.
Several years ago, my air conditioner broke and American Home Shield said that they would replace it. It was an old unit and the fluid that they used in the air conditioner system was going out of stock. I figured if my air conditioner was going, my heater was going to go as well. They said there was nothing wrong with my heater as of yet but I said I would really like to replace them both. They said I could go out of the American Home Shield system if I liked and find somebody to do the work. Then they would pay for the air conditioner part. I would have to pay for the heater to get a new system and they said that all I had to do was submit a bill once I got the work done so that they could send me a check. It was totally understandable. They were very understanding and really kind about it.
I also had a previous problem with my heater and at the time, I was going away. Rich, the gentleman that came out, was quite knowledgeable but he did not have the part on his truck. He said it would take three to five business days but I told him that was not gonna work and I wanted to see it get fixed before I go. So they were kind enough to overnight it and I had to pay for the extra shipping which was not a problem. They said American Home Shield didn't cover that but it was just regular shipping. So the part came, Rich came out, he fixed it, and I was flying out the next day knowing that everything was okay. Rich bent over backwards to try and make sure everything was working properly especially because I was leaving and I thanked him profusely.
Recently, the faucet and the tub were dripping. So, I called AHS and they sent a gentleman out. He put a new gasket on the faucet but he did not replace the thing that fits behind the faucet screw. It's the one you turn on and off and it wasn't flushed against the wall like it had been. So I called them back and said something was a mess. My fixtures are older and sometimes younger plumbers are not overly familiar with them. And I totally understand that because my husband used to be a plumber and it was not a big problem. I told them that the young man didn't know this type of thing, so they promptly sent out someone else. They wanted to send the second young man out a little earlier, but I wasn't going to be home. They were ready to send him out the next day though and that was nice. When he came out, he was more familiar with the issue and he fixed it immediately. Everything was hunky-dory after that.
All in all, I really like American Home Shield and I'm very happy with them. I even told done of my friends about them. They're exceptionally helpful and they try their best to fix your problem. If there is a problem after it's fixed, they will come out and try and re-evaluate the problem and fix it again. And there's is no extra charge for a second visit within a certain amount of time.

My oven's temperature would not regulate and after I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield, they sent out someone from a company called Mr. Care. The tech quickly decided that it needed a thermostat and a temperature controller so they had to order parts. He left and then I got a call that said the thermostat was no longer being manufactured but that they could get it refurbished. They ordered the part for the igniter for the boiler and they were to come out and remove the thermostat for refurbishment.
The man came out and he had the igniter but he did not know how to put it in. And as far as the thermostat, he didn’t know how to take that out as well. He said they have somebody with their company who has more experience with ovens and they would sent that person out. But when that person came out, he also didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t take out the part that needed to be refurbished and he couldn’t install the part that needed to be replaced. So he said that they were going to call American Home Shield and suggest that they send somebody else out because no one with their company knew how to work on this oven.
I got a call yesterday and it was from a guy from Sears who said he was coming out to work on my oven. I had heard nothing about Sears from American Home Shield. American Home Shield had sent me an email saying someone from Pinnacle Appliance Repair would be coming out instead. I called American Home Shield and the individual I spoke with checked the records and said the Sears person is supposed to be coming out. I told that rep that I don’t need both people to come out so they should cancel the one from Pinnacle.
The Sears guy got here and took some measurements. He spent a little more time than the others did but he ended up saying that the thermostat is a problem on regulating the temperature. He also said Sears does not refurbish. He left with a recommendation saying he will recommend to American Home Shield that they replace my oven. That was yesterday and I am anxiously waiting for a call from American Home Shield to tell me what's the next step. I still have an oven that’s not working, however, I've had other things happened with American Home Shield that they have taken care of very well.

The valves were leaking in both the hot and cold shower. They were the original equipment and were old brass fittings where everything had worn out. I tried to do some work on it myself. I replaced some of the handles and tried to tighten them down because even the handles themselves weren't the original equipment and they were clamps that held those in place and had strips. Unfortunately, they were knobby on what the grips were. They ripped through the older fashion handles so I had to use some adapters which didn’t quite fit and we found out that it required more tightening. That just seemed to hold it for a little while but as the leaks continued, that's when I filed the claim with American Home Shield.
I went on the web and the claims process was only a few steps to do that. For the situation itself, there wasn’t anything specific so I had to choose the best fit from the categories. I added some additional notes in there because it was generic for plumbing. That was for the plumber's benefit so when he'd come out here, he'd have better information as to what the issue was. I filed the claim on a Saturday and I got a call back on Monday. My wife, unfortunately, missed the call on Monday, so I called them back and was able to reschedule two days later which was fine.
My wife was there when the plumber arrived. He was a nice guy and did a great job. He took a look at the valves and he was able to change them out right then and there. My wife tested the shower handles and there was a slight leak. He got that part fixed up again and everything has been working well since then. I'm very happy with it, it was wonderful and I'm very satisfied with my experience with AHS.

He also had to replace one of the components and so far, the repairs that were done were fine for the freezer and small ice maker in our upstairs refrigerator. I have had AHS coverage on multiple homes and constantly AHS will figure ways to either refuse to pay for repairs or define part of the repair not covered. In San Francisco if you call for a plumber the person who arrives is in a suit looks at the damage says "I will get back to you" and never does a plumber arrive. In Las Vegas the plumber shows up and in one case says, "I will be back when AHS authorized it." The issue was a hot water heater. The problem is AHS does not pay for installation, eg, welding the copper water line to the water heater, they call that weld a modification.
In a 2nd case after two separate plumbers did repairs AHS said the toilet was damaged by someone standing on it so the replacement was not covered, could the damage have been caused by the plumber sitting on it during the repairs, but again AHS is happy to take your money, charge you a service fee, and then deny the claim. In the last incident the leak was inside the house but since the water line was to an external faucet AHS said it was not covered. Before they denied the claim the plumber told me that AHS would not pay for drilling thru wood to reach the pipe, what happens if you have a log home or wood walls. Again another AHS gotcha.
So my recommendation is never give money to AHS and if you have their warranty make sure you contact the trade directly since info they provide to the trade may not be what you state. Eg. My last call was water flooding my main floor and the work order said leak and AHS did not consider it an emergency or prioity call. Nothing is important to AHS except the premium and the service fee, beware.

They were a complete joke of a company. So I attempted to call AHS & guess what, you sit on-hold for over an hour, but closer to an hour & a half wait time. Do not use AHS! I have used them in the past without any issues, but what a waste of my money. I reported a dishwasher issue within the month I purchased my home in August 2017. I paid $75.00 for a certified repairman to come out. He diagnosed my 12 year old dishwasher needing a few parts, so he would order them. I have records of calling every other month to be told my parts are on backorder and should arrive in December. The call I had in December 2017, said they would elevate my request since I have been without a dishwasher for several months and the parts were still on backorder. I never received a call, no surprise. I called back in January 2018 only to be told the agent told me the wrong thing again the parts are still backordered and nothing I can do since the dishwasher is repairable. I am currently still out of a dishwasher after after 9 months now.
I called again last month only to be told it's been over six months. I need to pay to have a repairman come out again $75.00. Ugh... I threw a fit and they waved the one time fee for them to come out again for the same issue and I needed to call GE appliance myself to schedule the appointment. I called GE appliance to schedule the appointment and was told that only AHS is the only person that can schedule an appointment with them. Ugh... The amount of times wasted being told the wrong thing it's ridiculous. I just called again today and my anger has driven me to write a review, which I have never done. I was told the parts are still on backorder and will arrive June 30th and July 30th. How convenient, when my contract ends at the end of August 2018. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they have no one there. AHS customer service person can only escalate problems to the service support team which is just under a supervisor.
So, while waiting for the service support team number or email or anything to send in my concerns... their system goes down and they will have to call me back. Well, I'm not holding my breath. I have been 9 months without a dishwasher now. Do not buy this plan! I plan to research other companies if I decide to continue with a home protection company.
Good morning, Jill. I apologize that you have had to go so long with no working dishwasher. That is not how our policy is supposed to work. A Social Media Specialist will be contacting you to discuss your concerns and attempt to resolve the issue.

My husband is a realtor and has bought home warranties for clients through this company. When we purchased our home, we decided we should purchase one for us just in case. He'd been using this company for his clients so naturally we went with AHS. Well, what a mistake that was. Last month our washing machine quit on us. As you can imagine for a family of 5, this is a big inconvenience. When my husband submitted the claim we were told it was going to take over a week for someone to even come out and look at the issue. I was frustrated about that but, I rolled with it. The repairman came out as scheduled. He was very nice and extremely professional and knowledgeable.
After evaluating my washer he told me that almost every single original part needed to be replaced on the unit. He explained that if AHS chose to repair it, there would only be 2 original parts left. He said he was going to recommend the washer be replaced given the amount of parts and labor involved. Well, after 5 days my husband called the repair place and asked if they heard anything. They hadn't so the person very nicely reached out to AHS to find out the status. At that point she was told that it hadn't been looked at but they would do it asap. Later on she called and informed us that AHS decided that they want him to fix the unit. So, now they have to order all of the parts. Some of them can only be obtained by the manufacturer and it took over a week to get all the parts in.
The repairman came back out 2 weeks after his initial visit. He had all the parts and spent 3 or so solid hours fixing everything. When he went to test it, the washer still wasn't working. He figures out the control panel went. He apologizes and said he will rush the part and squeeze us in 2 days later. I was very appreciative. So he comes back out at night, most likely after normal hours, and spends another good hour fixing that. When he was done he started the washer and realizes that the drum has a significant leak. The drum was brand new out of the box and it's all 1 unit so it's nothing the repairman did. I saw the box and the part when he has installed it. I know a defective part is not the fault of AHS.
But, I am extremely frustrated with the overall experience at this point. First, the lack of urgency that AHS displays to its customers, even after the issue is diagnosed. Secondly, the fact that someone sitting behind a computer screen disregarded the advice of an experienced professional repairman who advised that this unit should be completely replaced. And third, the lack of communication that AHS has with the US the end customer. The only reason we know as much as we do about the status of our claim is the excellent customer service of the Repair company, who has been very sympathetic and has done all they could to help this along. Even they were very surprised that AHS decided to fix the unit given there was so much wrong with it.
After all this, there is only 1 original operational part on this washing machine (the buttons) and it is STILL not working because one of the new parts is crap. It's been a month now. We've spent close to $150 on going to the laundry mat and have to dish out more. If I knew the process was going to be like this, we would never have spent the amount of money we did to purchase this warranty. I can say with confidence, if I'd done this privately I would have had to pay for the service call and the repairman would have said get a new washer and I would have had a new washer over 2 weeks ago. I still don't know what is going to happen as we haven't heard a word about whether or not they are going to replace this part again (which needs to be ordered from the manufacturer and will probably take another week) or if they are just going to replace it. And honestly, I have no faith that it will work if they do decide to repair the drum again.
I am beyond dissatisfied with how AHS conducts business. My husband will be researching new Home Warranty companies for his clients. A home warranty is supposed to be there to help the customer when something goes wrong. It should not cause stress and worry. I wish I'd read all of the reviews which I just read of all of the negative experiences people have had with this company. My husband and I bought this warranty thinking it would be helpful if we were ever in a time of need and it's caused more stress and aggravation. We have used warranties on other types of services with MUCH success. I truly hope there are other reputable stand-up home warranty companies out there. AHS will eventually be losing us as a customer as well as countless new customers as my husband will no longer be using or referring them in his Real Estate Business.

I would be glad to speak with you as soon as possible and resolve the issues that have occurred. An email has been sent to you providing you with my direct contact information.

We had a plumbing emergency (basement flooding) that we noticed around 10pm. Unable to get someone on the phone from AHS. Tried a few times. We were assigned a plumber that has business hours of 8-5, M-F. I found a plumber on my own, paid on my own. When I called AHS during business hours, we were able to get through. We were told no reimbursement because we did not follow protocol of getting pre-approved. Impossible to do so because AHS does not make it easy to get someone on the phone at 10pm and needed a plumber emergency. Customer service was unpleasant to deal with. Researching new insurance companies once our contract expires. If anyone reads this, please do NOT choose American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield for a leaking shower head in one of our homes. I had great experience both with the AHS rep that I've spoken to and the contractor who was out there within 12 hours. He came in, introduced himself, and then we showed him what was leaking. He fixed it, described what he did and thanked us then left. It’s an advantage to have a policy with American Home Shield and I’ve had a great experience with them. I would recommend them.

We had an electrical issue and had one line of my living area that went dead. The electrician checked it out and fixed it very thoroughly. The technicians were very professional and very courteous. They showed that they were concerned about the problem and worked diligently and hard to find what it was. Every time we have needed American Home Shield, they have been on the spot and as soon as they could get somebody out, they were here and did the work professionally.

My breaker box wasn't working right so I got in touch with AHS. The gentleman who helped me got right on it. Then they called me to tell me that they'd be calling me. The same day I received a call and the appointment was set up. When the contractor came, I was at work and my auntie was the one at the house. She told me that the contractor explained to her everything and that he told her to let him know if we have more problems.
AHS is cost efficient and that's something that you need as a homeowner. Situations come up and you might not have the funds and you can depend on AHS. I've had two claims and they got right on it. I've had them for years and even when I ran into a financial problem, I would never cut them off. They're doing a great job and I recommend them to everybody.

I just moved into an older house that people haven't been keeping up maintenance on, so the water heater was leaking. Submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield was pretty good. The plumber that they sent was trying to replace the fittings on the top of my water heater and I told him that it was not the problem. The top of my tank was rusted out and that's why it was leaking and the plumber thought it was the fitting. So he wasted time on that. I called the plumbers again and they ended up replacing everything without charging me the second time because they recognized that it was something they should have fixed in the first place. I would definitely recommend AHS.

I called AHS because there was a leak in the water heater. The first time I did that the system was down, so I got the runaround and it was rude. I had to call six different times and finally I found one rep who was really helpful and was able to get someone out here. However, by that time, I was without water for half a weekend already so I was not very happy. But the contractor who came was great. He was very personable. He explained what he was doing, and took care of business, and was able to get water flowing back into the house.
Still, I’m becoming dissatisfied with AHS and I'm contemplating seeing if there is another company that does the same thing. I used to think that their warranty was extremely valuable, but not anymore. I’m just becoming disgruntled. They should hire people who want to work with people as far as their customer representatives. I do not want to be blown off and to be talked to rudely. I’m already having enough problems if I have to call.

South Placer Heating and Air did everything they said they were going to do and the performance since the repair has been good. When I submitted my request to American Home Shield, they told me who the vendor was and that they’d be contacting me. South Placer did contact me and told me when the technician would be coming out and when he would call me before he gets here. And so, the interaction was very good with both American Home Shield and with South Placer.
South Placer told me that there was a 30-day warranty and if there was a problem, I could call them within that 30 days. I have two air conditioning units and the problem was downstairs with the thermostat and he took a look at the upstairs one as well. It was a battery problem and he wanted to make sure we didn’t have the same problem upstairs and we’ve got to call him in again. He went above and beyond and not only was he professional, but he was also very progressive and very assertive. I’ve only used American Home Shield once since I’ve been with them for a number of years and it was a good experience for me. I’d recommend them and I may have to use them again for electrical issues that I’m having.

My dryer stopped heating and needed a heating unit and a fuse. It continued to circulate the clothes but it wouldn't dry them. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and their reps were very courteous and professional. They asked a little about the appliance so they could have the right parts and not to have more than one visit, which I appreciated. The tech called and scheduled an appointment and he was here on time. He was a very friendly guy. I told him what the dryer was doing and within a few minutes, it was done. He did a good job and I was happy. I've worked with the dryer all day yesterday and it had no problems.
I have had other warranty companies prior but that didn't work out at all for me. For instance, my 16 year old microwave went out and the other company just came out and told me it had been abused and they won't fix it and that was the end of that. I had two calls and they didn't do either one. With AHS, my garage opener stopped working and they sent somebody right out. They replaced the teeth part that drives the cable. They didn't say, "Have you abused it?" They just said, "This is the problem and I have this part and I can have it on in about 30 minutes." And that's what happened. AHS worked for me. In fact, this is now my third year with them and I have recommended them.

The contractors that have been out were very nice. I have an issue with my air conditioner and I’ve had two techs out there now. But I still don’t have an air conditioner and that’s been in the last two weeks. It’s 85 degrees here and I have a little girl. When we had one contractor out, he was supposed to fix it. Then we had to get another one come out and he also couldn’t fix it. He had to order a part and now, we’re waiting for the part that was supposed to be here on Monday. American Home Shield is fine. I got a text back saying whose company was gonna fix it and the time and date when to expect them. It was on a Saturday and they came out on Monday when it was convenient for me since it was a holiday and I had the day-off.
The contractor was good, diagnosed the problem, took care of everything and replaced the valve. After I filled out the paperwork, he went back and checked because according to him, sometimes, even after he has checked everything, there may be still a leak so he wanted to make sure before he left. He did a good job and everything is working fine. I also had a problem when the heating went out. It was a unit in the attic and they sent someone out. My washer would not empty. I called American Home Shield on the phone and told the reps that I needed to make a claim. I’ve been satisfied with how the reps and I interacted. They were good, answered the questions, and told me upfront how much it was gonna cost. They kept me well-informed on what I needed and what I needed to take care of. Then, one contractor came out and he did very well. I was very pleased with him as he took the time to explain to me what was wrong and fixed it. And if I had that problem again, he told me what to look for and where to look, and that was a big thing to me. I was also having a few issues with the dryer and he showed me what to do to fix that. And because there was some noise coming from my icebox, he checked the refrigerator as well so everything was perfect on it. So far, everything has been fine and good since the contractor came.
I’ve been satisfied with American Home Shield and I’ve told people that they need to use AHS. The only thing that concerns me is the price. AHS keeps climbing up on it and it’s a lot higher every time they come. So, it’s a big deal to me. Otherwise, all the guys I’ve ever had come out and look at anything have been superb except for one contractor. It was the one that put my new water heater in because the other one caught on fire. They hooked up the things wrong. I told American Home Shield and they had them fix it but I ended up having to fix it.
The techs were very snotty and not good guys at all. They left tools and everything else just lying around and shoved things back without cleaning out the area. I told them that it needs to be cleaned up before they put the heater because I was afraid of my water heater not being level. But they told me that if I needed it cleaned, I should clean it myself. I said that they were the ones working on my product but they wouldn’t do it. So, I grabbed my broom and cleaned it up myself before they left, so that the water heater and everything would sit right. I wasn’t satisfied with them in any way and I told them they could never come back to my house.

The following is a review I left for one of your vendors in the Tampa Bay area. When I called AHS asking about my options to select somebody else I was told that I couldn't because they had already order a part. My option was to pay another fee to get a different vendor out there. I was a little outraged since "I thought" my contract included that the problem would be fixed. My problem isn't fixed and the vendor they are using refuses to scheduling as I need. I am not asking for something completely off base. I am not asking for them to fix my dishwasher at 8 PM at night. I am only asking for a 3-5 window or Saturday. So American Home Shield, how are you going to remedy this?
If I could, I would give a zero along with American Home Shield for contracting with this unprofessional bumbling example of a company. When they first came out to diagnose my issue it was on Saturday. Unfortunately they carry dishwasher drain pumps for probably the most bought dishwasher branch in the world (Whirlpool). No problem. Not really a big deal. They had to order the part and come back out to install.
A few days later I get a call that they needed to schedule to come back out. Now they never answer the phone when you call back. You always have to leave a message and they call you leave a message, you call them leave a message. You get the picture. So once you finally get them on the phone I attempted to schedule the repair. I asked for a Saturday service or an appointment after 3 PM. She laughed and so no way am I am getting a Saturday. I asked why because you initially came out on a Saturday. She said that was fluke and doesn't normally happen. I am ok with that I guess as long as we can schedule during the week convenient for me. Well there really isn't any convenience for the customer. You either take their appointments. The young lady on the phone will laugh at you and say, "That's not going to happen." I only asked that my appointment be after 3 PM. I could be 3 PM on the nose. I didn't care.
I work far from my house and travel sometimes. My wife is a teacher. Neither one of us can take three hours off in the middle of the day. I then asked, "Can we schedule after Memorial day." School is out and the time window issue during the day becomes a mute point. She laughed again at me and said, "No way. We can't schedule." So buyer beware. Don't use them. Whoever owns this company should really look at who he/she is hiring in their office and review their schedule practices. Looking at these reviews I would say your staff is costing you business.

A coil was defective in one of my three AC units and the first company that came out and did the assessment said that the coil needed to be replaced. In the meantime, while that was going on, I was told that they would contact me when they would come in to put in the new coil. I was told that it was due to lack of maintenance and that American Home Shield was not responsible for the coil. So, I requested a second company to come for a second opinion and the company found the coil defective not due to lack of maintenance but it was leaking oil. I submitted the claim again to AHS and I was told that I had to pay over a $1,000 because the insurance doesn't cover certain parts of the coil. So, I’m over a $1,000 here but I need to pay to have the coil removed.
I was already a member of American Home Shield before hurricane Katrina happened in 2005. After the hurricane, I lost everything. I stopped my policy until I rebuilt my home and then I acquired the policy again. Recently, they made me mad that they weren't going to pay me for the coil so I wanted to discontinue the service. But I called the next day and told them I was only acting out of anger and they reinstated the policy. I've been with American Home Shield for a total of over 15 years but I'm very dissatisfied with them. Every year I call for this AC to be fixed and the contractors come and fix this very same AC only to find out that the whole time it was the coil that was bad. American Home Shield tells me the problem was due to lack of maintenance but it was them who was lacking because they've been doing the maintenance. It wasn't right for them to treat me like that after all this time that I've been with them.

My air conditioner had a coil leak and I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online. They don’t have the best subcontractors, so I picked one that I wanted and that was who they sent over. The subcontractor they sent over earlier never showed up, so I ended up having to go with a different one that they have. I have had good luck and bad luck with American Home Shield, but anything that deals with an air conditioner normally isn’t a good thing because they just keep repairing them and I end up eventually buying a new one because they don’t pay for the Freon. I end up paying $1000 every time somebody has to come out and drain the Freon no matter what the issue is. All they do is keep putting patches on it. The air conditioner is a waste of money to have them come out. Once the air conditioner gets to be a certain age, it’s not worth it and I might as well buy a new one because I just keep calling them out every time.
I normally make a claim for small things online and through that, the contractors show up and do it. But for big things like the air conditioner, which is always a problem, I normally talk to a customer rep. My interactions with American Home Shield have been fine. If I have an issue with my furnace, they would send out the same people, so I have no issues with them at all. My interactions with the AC subcontractors haven’t been good, but the last AC subcontractor was fine. I would tell my friends that getting American Home Shield depends on how old their house is. If it’s a new house under warranty, I wouldn’t do it, but if it’s a house that’s out of warranty, then I’d pick and choose the appliances that I wanna have covered, which is a good thing if they can pick and choose what they wanna have covered.
Hello, Mr. Dennis. I definitely understand what you are stating about your A/C repairs. You should speak with a rep to make sure the work order is getting the proper treatment, especially if it is your only unit and you need service quickly. Thank you for letting us know about your experiences.

I have used to recommend American Home Shield to all my friends with a brand new house. I tell them to get a home warranty and use American Home Shield before their house gets 10 years old. However, this time with our ongoing claim, I wouldn't do so. I called American Home Shield and reported that the washing machine would not wring out the water. Bennett Heat Air & Electric came out and they tried to fix the unit. They decided to replace the washing machine, but when it arrived, it didn’t have the pedestal so my wife refused it. The pedestal is used to put the unit at the right height for one to load the washing machine. They don't have the matching pedestal and the old one is not gonna go on there. So, they took the washing machine back.
Right now, we can’t even get in touch with anybody. While the American Home Shield reps were very patient to deal with, our call always goes to the answering service. My wife leaves messages and tells them to call her back at a particular contact number because either I was busy or working. One time she called them then they called in less than 20 minutes, but they called my number and I was asleep that time. I’ve been without a washing machine now for over a month. My wife is going through shoulder therapy and I have to go to the washeteria to wash clothes. So, I’m very dissatisfied.

I'm satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. When I submitted a claim, I tried to do it online a couple of times but it didn't work. It didn't go through somehow. So I always make a phone call. Recently, I had a claim for my water heater. They couldn't fix it until they do some kind of modification and you have to have a permission for that. I had to make payments for this and for that and it was expensive. Other than that, the contractors they sent out were very good, especially the last guy who did the water heater. He was helpful.

My original home AC was 25 years old and when I turned it on, it didn’t come on. I called to submit the claim and it all went very well. They sent somebody out that diagnosed it then came out with the part two days later and fixed it. The next day though, it was doing something weird. So I called them back and they came out and said there was another part that was needed to fix that right away. The contractors were great and prompt. They also agreed to call me on their way so I didn’t have to waste four hours waiting for them, and were there and fixed it quickly.

The AC stopped working so I called American Home Shield and they sent a technician who got it going. They found out there was a relay that went bad. And then two weeks later, it was going but it wasn’t cooling. So I called them again and they sent the same company who recharged my unit with three pounds of Freon and it has been working ever since. I submit a claim either online or by phone and within the next 24 or 48 hours, I get a contractor coming in, and then they take care of the problem. But sometimes it takes about anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes before I get somebody on the line when I call. Other than that, my wife and I are very satisfied with the response.
They send contractors from the local area and give us a four-hour window. Then, they call 30 minutes before they arrive to make sure I am available at home. It’s a good relationship between me and AHS and the contractors. American Home Shield is great and it’s the best thing we ever got for our household. Sometimes you cannot predict when systems go down. It’s nice to have American Home Shield available 24/7 and it has freed me from any worries. I recommended them to all my friends and since I enrolled with them, at least half a dozen of my friends also enrolled.

The shower wasn’t able to go from tub to shower. It was moving, but it wasn’t plugging. I logged on and I filed two claims to American Home Shield. For the first one, I called and discovered that I wasn’t fully-covered for my claim so I upped my plan to suit what I needed done. The first guy I spoke to was really helpful. And he had a calm and inviting voice that was like warmed-over leather. He was really smooth with the way he was delivering the information and he made me feel really good about the whole process. And then the second time, the AHS reps told me how to file a claim online to make it more convenient. It was really easy online. I went on there, clicked the place that said, “Plumbing issue” and then pulled it up. I got a call from the plumbing company and we set up a time. I told them that I wasn’t gonna be here but my wife was. They came, took a look at the problem with the shower, and waited for the parts to come in.
The wait was like a couple of weeks. But it’s insurance, and it usually takes longer than what they anticipate. So I called the contractor and they said the parts should be in by Thursday and they'd call me and set up a time right after that. And then they actually called me back the next day and they said the earliest that they could come was the day after that. But it was a little bit funny because they called back after that and told my wife that their guy would be able to come on a Monday instead, which was fine. But then, he ended up showing up that Friday. And that was perfect. He installed the shower and now it’s working like a charm.

I submitted a claim recently to American Home Shield online for a garbage disposal and an oven. And everything has been fine since the repair. My husband also put in a claim for a microwave because the microwave was making a funny noise. It was quite loud when it was cooking the food. The repairman who came out and did the oven looked at the microwave. He said when it’s an insurance company, they can’t really do repairs on it if it’s not actually non-working, which I thought was odd. If they were already here, it made sense financially not to have a whole other claim for something if he prevented it from breaking. The contractors did a good job but they don’t work on things because they’re noisy. They work on them if they’re actually broke. That aside, I would recommend American Home Shield. I’m satisfied with what they did. It was very quick getting the scheduling done and having someone out.

We've been with American Home Shield for about nine months. We had a lot of appliances that were coming out from underneath the original warranties and I had been talking to people who were in a similar situation, and AHS was recommended by somebody that I worked with who had had good success with the program. My wife filed a claim when our freezer drawer was slightly off the track. I looked at it myself but was unable to get it off the track, and my theory was that something had broken. The technician that came fixed it very quickly for us and showed us how the thing went back in. There was really no repair. It was just an explanation to us as to what we had to do if the thing came off the track again and it was really simple. He was only there for a few minutes and we were very satisfied with the service. American Home Shield was very reliable and efficient.

I have had two claims with American Home Shield and the first one was absolutely wonderful with Precision Garage Door. They were wonderful. Everything was not only on point but professional, and they got it all done and went beyond. However, my second experience had been less than acceptable. I've had someone from East Electronics come out to see about my Bosch downdraft, my vent on my cooktop. He told me that my cooktop had no electricity and that I needed an electrician. I said that it was connected and was in the same outlet. I had electricity and I just cooked on it. He said that I had to have a match to start the fire. I said no and that I had an automatic ignition. It comes on as soon as I turn on the pilot. The man, however, did not seem to understand what I was saying and I hardly could understand what he was saying too.
I was totally in awe of how he stood in front of me and told me something that was totally erroneous. I told him that he was from East Coast Electronics and he was there to fix it. I also asked why someone else had to come. He said that mine was a different work order and that someone needed to do the wiring, then he left. I called him and told him that I was really confused because my stove was working. He said that he just ordered parts for my stove. I asked him how he ordered the parts if he hasn’t seen the downdraft. He said that he already ordered the parts. So, I called American Home Shield and I relayed to them what happened, and they very quickly said that they will contact the contractor and see what was going on. They wanted something in writing that that was what happened and what the result was.
That was over a week ago that he was supposed to have that in, but it still hasn’t come in until yesterday. I spoke to several people and I've been on the phone at least five times. And each time, I had to hold on over half an hour. But that was okay because someone eventually answered. One time, American Home Shield called me back and asked if I would like them to call me back. The wait was over 29 minutes. I said sure and left my name and number, and they, sure enough, called me back. I am not at all dissatisfied with American Home Shield but with the last contractor that came here. It's been almost two weeks. I still don't have the issues that I called to be repaired fixed. American Home Shield has given me good talk, but I haven't seen the walk with this one.

You can file the claim online but I don’t do that very well. I haven't even got a computer. But for the rest of it, American Home Shield has been more than good. When I submitted a claim a while back for my toilet and a couple of plumbing issues, the rep was real nice and pleasant. She basically asked me what the problem was.
I misdiagnosed the issue though. I'm disabled and I couldn’t see. The contractor shined a light and showed me a hairline crack. Then he filled the tank up with water and water started coming out of the crack. I didn’t even see that and he said it was just because I didn’t have a good enough light. He was real friendly. When he came back out, he brought another guy to help him and they were real professional. They took care of my issues. They had to replace the tank but because you can’t just buy a tank, they had to replace the whole thing. It’s brand new and it works perfect now.

I had my sump pump fixed and AHS sent out Water Control Plumbing and it went really positively. First, I called AHS to set up so that they'd assign me right there and then. After that I was able to pay them through my American Express card, which was an improvement, since last time I had to use them I had to wait 20 minutes on the line. Then, within two hours, I had a response from Mike from Water Control Plumbing. They were able to schedule me the very next morning and I liked that. I had an appointment at that time but I canceled it because was a high priority for me to get that because I don’t have a backup generator for the salt pump.
The service people were here and they arrived a few minutes earlier and gave me a call. Most of the other vendors that AHS have sent in the past have done that part already but I especially give Water Control Plumbing high marks for the timeliness. Then, the young man who came was courteous. He listened to what my concern was. He went down and I usually follow repairpeople down when I had something done with American Home Shield and he seemed knowledgeable about he was doing. He had found the source of the problem and he explained to me what it was and that it was a thing that happens rarely. But he told me that something from the outside sewerage system had come in and blocked something and kept the flow from going out.
He also explained to me about the cellar that I had rigged down and he could see all my sump pump piping going up and down. He said that it was one of the very best lines out there so I had a very good sump pump. So in essence, the contractor's timeliness was superb, he listened to me and what my concern was, and he was able to answer my questions that I had regarding prevention and my concerns. I felt relieved and reassured. I was extremely pleased. All of the people that they have sent to my home through these past few years have been responsive to my concerns and professional and respectful. I feel as though I’m a valued customer. But one thing I told them afterwards when I spoke with the dispatcher was to make sure that their people wear an ID. In my community, we need to make sure that they have that ID around their necks.

Once they put the compressor in, I paid for the freon. Two weeks later, I called again and told them that there was an issue with the compressor. They came back and told me that it was the fan motor and not the compressor. Now, they came back and told me that it was something else. I paid for a fee and they said it was the fan motor. They wrote it up that it could be an electrical issue.
Then, American Home Shield said that they were not responsible and that they were not gonna pay for it. They then sent out another person as a complimentary. I filed claims over the phone and the experience was pretty smooth plus, the technicians were very professional. I appreciate having the availability of a service like American Home Shield. We like them and in our new home, we paid a service warranty for a year and I requested that we have AHS.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our leaking and non-functional hot water heater over the phone. I was able to get through to them, then I got a text from the vendor and they were fairly responsive. The contractor came out and analyzed that it was dead and they replaced it. The initial representative that came out about a week later was good and was most helpful. Unfortunately, the second group that came out, came out with the wrong materials and they had to go back and get different materials in order to complete the installation. My wife was a little disappointed but she was glad when it was finally resolved. We've been pleased.
This time my HVAC has gone out. We reported that claim about three weeks ago and the group that does the service has been fairly slow responding to us. I left them a call on Monday, telling them that I was gonna give AHS a call if they didn't respond fairly quickly, and then they called and were apologetic that they had been slow responding. We have been without HVAC for about two and half to three weeks now.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fine. My AC wasn't blowing cold air and then thinking back, it wasn't blowing hot air in the winter but I couldn't figure out what it was. But I didn't notice it so much from the heater because it wouldn't get that cold but when the cold air stopped blowing, I noticed that right away. My wife filed a claim by telephone and the process was easy. Contractors usually respond within 24 hours because they depend on what time we call it in, but it's during normal business hours. Many times, we get the contractor call that same day to set up an appointment and it's usually the next day or depending on how the contractors schedule it. It's never an unreasonable amount.
The AC repairman that came out was absolutely fine. He was very friendly, professional, knew exactly what he was doing and he resolved the issue efficiently. He had to come back though because there was a part that he didn't have and he had to order it from the shop and it took him a couple of days. Other than that, everything's fine. American Home Shield is a good company. It's an insurance that we have and I would recommend them. We've been with them for 12 years now. You stick with the one you know and it's been well, so far.
Thanks for being apart of the AHS family for 12 years Luis. We value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to share your warranty experience. Have a beautiful week!

When I submitted my claim to American Home Shield, I was expecting it to be a nightmare but it went very smoothly. Mr. Rogers Appliance Repair and Sales was very prompt and the repair guy that came out was very courteous. The guy told me that they would recommend replacement because they saw that they could replace all of those things and repair them. But they would be right back out here in about three to six months on something else. They talked to AHS who called me and within two weeks, I had new products. It was very effortless.
Also, they brought out the appliance and one of them was damaged. So, I called them immediately and it was three days when they had another one out. We’ve always had American Home Shield on all of our homes and now I have a story that I can tell others that it is worth it when they say, “Oh, it’s not worth it.” I'm a real estate agent and it gives me something else I can tell my clients when I recommend they get a home warranty.

The representatives were also very understandable. They were very kind and the claims process was very smooth. The contractor were also very good. But one of their employees was kind of weird so I asked for the same guy who came first time which was a very good person like family. I felt comfortable with him. Another contractor was very good too. They did their job in one day and were on time. For the water heater they have to order the water heater. But the other one they just came, diagnosed the problem and by the next day they came to fix it. I'm happy with AHS.

We moved into our house and rapidly discovered that the refrigerator was not cooling. Then, we called American Home Shield. When I called, everybody I talked to was very polite. However, helpfulness was another issue. One of the biggest frustrations I had was that I could never get through to the department I needed to get to because the line was out of order. One time, I called and I was trying to get through to the parts ordering department. I tried for three days and each time the line was out of order.
On the third day, I called the main number and their reps told me that they had no idea that the department line was out of order and that they would get someone to get the telephone service in there. Still, that only meant that after two and a half days, I couldn't have been the only person trying to get through to that department. It seemed a little odd that they didn't know that one of their department lines wasn't functioning. The week after, I still wasn't able to get through on a Monday. I got through the Tuesday thereafter and after that it was spotty.
However, when I finally got through to someone, it was okay. The contractor they sent was wonderful. We replaced the compressor twice. We replaced the coil once. We replaced the fluid twice. We replaced the thermostat. And then there wasn’t anything else to replace. So, after that, then it was the question of deciding what to do. But the whole process took either six or seven weeks. He did everything he could do in a timely fashion until he was completely helpless. There was nothing else he could do to make the refrigerator hold the temperature. That repair person is now one of my best friends.
Finally, AHS did what they said they were going to do. I was supposed to get a cash-in-lieu check which I haven't received yet. Nevertheless, AHS processed my request and told me that they could see on their computer what had happened. No one ever told me that I wasn't telling the truth or that they were not going to help me. Still, it took an extended period of time before I was offered cash-in-lieu. They eventually told me that I had to buy a new refrigerator, send a copy of the receipt to Carroll, Iowa with my AHS number on it. That was two weeks ago and I still don't have the check.

My home is not the newest and some of the big appliances break down from time to time. Having a warranty is a bit reassuring. AHS was recommended through the company I work for, Farmers Insurance. I heard knocking in my water heater upstairs and I wanted to make sure that everything was in the up and up and that the heater was functioning properly. I went online and requested someone to come out, then AHS contracted The Lindsay Company to come out and see me. Once we scheduled the date, the conversation was very quick. They called me the next day and set up something the week after because of my schedule.
The tech who came was very professional and seemed very knowledgeable about what he was doing. He had no problem walking me through his steps, his thought processes on what was happening, what he felt needed to be done, and his recommendations on how to fix the problem. I feel very comfortable with AHS' recommendation for The Lindsay Company.
Thanks for sharing you AHS experience Kevin. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

I was losing gallons of water a day and I didn't know exactly why the water was jumping out endlessly. I called American Home Shield if they could send somebody out. I put in an urgent request on Sunday and they couldn't get anybody come out until Monday. But when the people that they referred to me called, they said they could come out on Wednesday. That’s kinda excessive when you got a situation where you’re dumping that much water. I had to shut the water off to the house because we didn’t know the cause.
I called American Home Shield back and told them that the people that they referred could only come out until Wednesday and asked them if they could refer someone else. The person that took this phone call told me that they needed to verify first that that was in fact what the contractor told us. She didn’t give me the second referral until I’d waited on hold for her to make some other phone call. So that part wasn’t cool. She did refer me to someone that told me they couldn’t come out until Wednesday as well. So I called American Home Shield again and told them to cancel all of it. Luckily, I was able to call an irrigation specialist in my town who came out and figured out what the problem was.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The air conditioning wasn’t cooling and I didn’t have heat the whole winter because it would get to a certain temperature and it would never push the heat out. It would just heat up the furnace then it would shut off. And the cooling was just blowing out hot air. When my wife submitted the claim online, they called back and everything went great and there were no problems. The contractor knew so many people from where he originally came from that I knew. So, we kept chatting for a minute and then I let him go take care of his job but he was very courteous and he was a gentleman and so, the interaction was very good. Everything went smoothly the same day. He had the parts that I needed then he put the Freon in it and then he was gone. The repair work took less than an hour and then he had some paperwork to do. It’s working super since then and my wife said it is too cold for her now.
One of their competitors tried to sign me up with them but I’ve had an experience with American Home Shield. I first moved to this house where I am now in 2001 and that’s how long I've been with AHS. We got somebody out here who did exactly what he needed to do. He advised us on what he was doing and what the cause should be, which in this case was the freon. I had a problem with my garbage disposal and there was a leak from it under the sink. So I called American Home Shield and they sent a fellow out. There was very little interaction with the technician. He came in and looked under the sink there and found that there was a crack in the garbage disposal. He guessed that it came from something going into the garbage disposal that was not supposed to be there. American Home Shield then denied my claim. I wasn’t too happy with it since they didn’t cover the crack. I would tell my friends to choose wisely because the only time American Home Shield would cover an appliance like that is if they wore out because of age. And most appliances aren’t just gonna wear out. Also, if there was an accident or in a situation where we had no idea that something would’ve gone down the garbage disposal, the only thing we had to go on is the plumber’s assumption on what the problem was.

I’ve submitted claims to American Home Shield online and on the phone. I’m an old guy and I like talking to a representative on the phone telling them what’s going on. Both are easy but online is quicker and it’s what I have done more than the other. The reps are confident and if there was a situation with a vendor, I call them and ask them what’s going on. An example is when I had a GE Microwave oven and the GE guy did not send the report back to AHS. When I called them, they told me to either call GE or they can reach out to them. We both tried and so it’s gone well for us and we’ve been pleased so far. When the press cycle in my washing machine didn’t work, American Home Shield replaced the whole unit. I also have a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator and the icemaker was broken and they repaired that. They were very helpful.
The contractors are good and it’s minimal contact. They wanna know where the problem is and I point them in the right direction. They’re independent people and don’t need my help. I don’t have to stay there and all the time, my wife will just be here. I have a high-efficiency furnace and I had a problem with it last year. It was the control module on the furnace and they said it was more expensive to replace that than to replace the unit. So they just replaced the unit and those guys cleaned up and were in and out. They went ahead at it and did their job. They put on dust booties when they were in the house. They were good people and they respect your property. Since the repair, everything has been working well. Today, they’re supposed to come and replaced my waste stack. I have a bunch of leaks. It’s a black plastic which is illegal to use now and it’s not code.
The experience has been very positive and I have peace-of-mind having that insurance. If we sell the house, our real estate agent said that if we give a home insurance free for a year to the buyer, it sells faster and better. For $500, I think it was. I don’t think we have a problem showing our house but that was just a nice thing to know. Also, I’m getting older and I’ve got back problems. I used to be a fixer guy and I could get in there, spoil all around and replace the drum on the dryer and all of that motor. But I’m 62 this year and I’ve got 16 screws on my back so I can’t be doing that anymore. I need to be able to have to rely on other people now which is kind of sad but it is what it is. So, I’m totally satisfied and couldn’t live without it.

I usually call in and talk to someone to submit my claims to AHS. Then I get a call from whoever it is that’s gonna come out and they’re there when they say they are. Their reps are very accurate in what they do and they’re to the point to get the information they need. My garage door opener had a problem and it has been the second time that AHS has sent a contractor to come out on it, but it’s been a year in between. The contractor that came recently was great. He tried to explain to me what was happening with it. One of the chain ribbons in it binds sometimes.
Since the repair, my garage door opener works fine. My son also has American Home Shield, which is under my name, in his house and he just had a refrigerator repaired. It has been working fine, too. They were done approximately at the same time. However, I’ve had trouble with one electrical company. It was their attitude in the house. They dragged stuff across my carpet and it was like, “We’re just here to do this as quick as we can.” I've told AHS I wouldn’t work with them anymore.
Another thing is that AHS's bill changes by a dollar every once in a while. I have it taken directly from my account and it makes it a little difficult sometimes. I’ve got to wait and see what was actually charged on it. It was never more than a dollar but it could be either an increase or a decrease. Other than that, American Home Shield has always been really good. They are very professional. My claims are usually taken care of on the first trip. If not, they’re back within a short time.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield as we were not able to get hot water in the bathtub in the master bath and there was a slow drip leak on the overflow on the water heater. My husband called American Home Shield and the reps were really good. They scheduled the appointment to be on a Tuesday. We called on Friday or Saturday and they ended up coming on Monday.
Since the heater was repaired, it has been great. The people before us bought a new faucet for the hot water in the bathtub and there was some sort of safety that was on the faucets. The faucet can only turn so far to make the hot water come. The contractor could’ve suggested that over the phone based on what we told them was happening because we had hot water everywhere but that one faucet and they came out to turn the screw it themselves.

I just called them up and told them what happened. They called me after I submitted it and told me what was going on, and who they would send out. Then once they got an estimate from the plumbing company they called me also to give me the information.
Also, the contractors were nice when they first came out to look at the issue. They explained in detail what needed to be done and why. And then I had to wait for a couple of days for them to get the part needed and that was uncomfortable because I was without hot water for a few days. But they came out when they received the part, a couple of days later, and then fixed the issue. Things have been doing wonderful since and I’m very happy because I have hot water. So, I'd tell anyone to definitely try American Home Shield. It’s worth it.

My AC wasn't cooling. It turned out that the coil was bad and that it had a hole in it, and all the freon was gone, too. The contractor they sent was very polite and did his job. However, they did not provide a comparable unit this time around. Years ago they replaced my washing machine which was a top of the line Kenmore unit with a beautiful one which had the same features and everything and I was satisfied. So I was a bit shocked when this claim came along. I was disappointed and I thought of cancelling the service because I put a lot of money into it and when I had a big claim they did not come through. Another complaint that I have is that AHS only provided one year warranty on it which I did not feel was sufficient. So, I went with the 10-year warranty which was twice as expensive, and I have to turn around and do the same thing again next year and that did not make sense.
I understand your concerns with the most recent repairs that were completed on your air conditioner system. I would be glad to discuss the noncovered cost associated with the new evaporator coil.

During our last incident, I was on the phone waiting for a rep for over an hour. This time the hold time was just 15 minutes. AHS dispatched someone to see if there was a problem with the heater or air conditioner on that floor closing it. He cleaned it out and said, “See what happens from this point if you still have a leak or not.” Another time we had a problem with a bad plumber and as soon as I called AHS back, they referred our claim to a different plumber and rectified the problem. And we didn't wanna use Cirigliano Plumbing because they were horrible. Usually, service people don't give you a half-hour or 20 minutes heads up and I had to have somebody present on site. But when Cirigliano knocked on the door, it was a four-hour window. It was a joke.
The guy from Cirigliano came out there and I told him what the problem was. I knew exactly what it was and I could give him the part number. I'm fixing stuff myself but the reason I didn't was because the place I buy them from were out of them. AHS refunded my $75 trade fee and then they asked, "What do we owe you for that repair?" It dawned on me and I found what I needed. The part was 12 bucks and they sent me a check for that, which was very nice. I'm a real estate broker and I sell this product. I've used another product, but I like the warranty that AHS sells. They were fair. With the companies that I had experienced with, it was okay to get somebody out there within 48 hours. But the problem was a clogged toilet and Cirigliano couldn't get to it for two days when other guys go out there the same day.
AHS wanted me to change contractors and find somebody else. I asked AHS if they can give me a half-hour notice and he said yes because they had a software program and they plug me into this program and it will automatically call me. And it did. So, it was a good experience with AHS but the contractors might be a little busy. I like AHS for the service that they provide for the price that I pay but they should take a better look at the contractors. What I really think about is the experience that my clients have when I recommend AHS for a home warranty. I can appreciate AHS, but then I might not know who they're really getting in bed with when they get these contractors on board in different areas.

I an easy time submitting a claim online to American Home Shield for a quick refrigerator fix. The contractor called me the next morning and came out within 45 minutes. He fixed my problem faster than I expected and he was gone. If there's someone who can't handle things around the house, it's a good idea to get somebody to do those things.
Great Kevin! That's what we like to hear. Thanks for choosing AHS. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield that I got some of my family members go with them too. With the last claim I filed with them, I called in and the following day, they sent somebody out and repaired my refrigerator. It was pretty fast. The contractor was also very knowledgeable. As a matter of fact, I recommended him to one of my co-workers. The local people who came out here were pretty good as well.
The reps have also been very nice and easy to talk to. It's been good interactions when we talk to each other. I like for people to be straightforward with me and they have been that. Then, whenever my ex-mother-in-law who's Taiwanese has a problem in Virginia, she'd call me and I'd call American Home Shield for her because it's very hard to understand her. It would be like a three-way type of call and the reps would let me talk on her behalf.
Throughout the 20 years that I've been with American Home Shield, I never had a complaint about them. I've always promoted them to people too. Although I'd tell them it's a great insurance, they're worried about the price. So, I assured them that if something breaks, it pays for itself. I hope American Home Shield would just keep doing the good job that they've been doing.

I used American Home Shield’s services a few times and the coverage has been very valuable for me with buying a used home. I’ve had to use their service a few times. The website of American Home Shield is very easy to use. I went online and submitted a claim for a repair for a water heater. It took two days for a technician to be dispatched but they have always been very pleasant. The water heater is operating perfectly since the repair. I’ve had experiences where the technicians didn’t do a proper job and I still am suffering from it but this technician seemed to know what he was doing.

My shower tub and my sink were backing up so I just needed for someone to rod it all the way through so I can get a good flow going on. I notified American Home Shield and with just a few clicks it was set up easily. The website was super straightforward. They called that same day that I submitted it. I might have submitted it like in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning, I got a call and then it just depended on my availability.
The contractor was friendly, professional, on time, explained what he was doing and kept me up-to-date. And he actually finished pretty quickly so not even a bother as far as being in the house. I've done a few claims so far and it has always been easy to make the claim and get a call really quickly. And everybody they've sent out has been knowledgeable. I'm super happy with the service so far.
When I had an issue with the furnace they came out. My contractor walked me through like it was already beyond repair so they actually replaced it and I paid the difference of whatever it was. But then after about a week or so, the new one started shutting off on me kinda similar to the other one. So they came right back out. Again they came out right away. It was under warranty so I didn’t even have to pay for them to come back. But it was kind of a problem with the way it was installed -- a new unit being hooked up to the old system, with old pipes and whatnot. So again the contractor walked me through it, explained and fixed it and I haven't had any issue since.

We put in a claim with American Home Shield back in December on the AC unit as it wasn't cooling. We submitted the claim in the computer which was okay but I'd rather speak to somebody. We live in Enid, Oklahoma but AHS was sending us people from Kansas. We called the contractor and they told us that the only time they could get out here was a Tuesday. It was already Wednesday when we called them so we were gonna have to wait a week for them to fix our AC. So, we called AHS and they sent us a guy from Oklahoma City which was an hour and 45 minutes away. We called AHS and complained about that but they said that was all I had. The technician said that the AC was just low in Freon. He put Freon in the system and said it should be good. Also, he said the valves were leaking so he replaced the valves.
Four months later, April, we tried to use the air conditioning unit again and it was not cooling so then we called in another claim. We called AHS to make the appointment and talk to somebody and requested a local. They sent us somebody within 20 minutes from here which was awesome. The guy said that the A-frame cooling unit was leaking so they replaced the unit. I had a great interaction with the recent contractor, and the AC is working great now. It’s nice and has cold air. I would suggest AHS that they go back to where they originally did things and how I was to pick from several companies to come out and fix the claim. When we first started with AHS, we had four options to choose from. And if my friends would ask, I’d tell them to call in for their claims instead of using AHS' automated system.

My air conditioner was not working on a house that I purchased but it worked whenever the inspection is done. We moved in and it did not work so we called American Home Shield and I was able to get through to someone very quickly. She was very nice, fast, friendly, and understood that I needed to get the thing done fast. The appointment with the contractor was scheduled immediately and they came out the next day. It was an easy repair and the guy was professional, courteous, friendly, and timely. He fixed the problem and it was a good experience.
