I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield for my dryer. The contractor they sent out was amazing. It was the same company that fixed my stove and it’s also the same guy, so he was good. He was on time and if he ran into a delay, he lets me know upfront. He gave me a 15-minute notice when he’s gonna be at the house and he did the job. The dryer has been working fine since the repair. I recommend American Home Shield to others.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for a washer-dryer. We submitted the claim over the phone and the claims reps were terrific, and our interaction with them went fine. The technicians who came out to do the service were great as well. The washer now seems to be okay, but the techs are coming back to service the dryer again later this week. We’re not present at the location all the time, so the service call has to fit our schedule, but they seem to be very good at doing it. I would tell a friend to use American Home Shield.
Thanks for sharing your AHS experience James. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs.

We had a leaky water heater, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. The online submission process was fine. The contractor arrived at the house and looked at the water heater. One of the connectors on the very top of it was leaking, so he replaced it. He said we would have some condensation, so we might have a bit of water because it was full up there, and to give it a couple of days. So, we did. The next morning, I got up and it was like a waterfall, a little more than a drip. I had a little cup I was scooping water out of the bottom tray because it’s in the garage and it sits on wood, I didn’t want that wood to rot. I went online and requested that he return. They called me to confirm appointments and to tell me the approximate time. The actual repair guy called me when he was getting close to the house and said that he’ll be here within 20 minutes.
He came back out and that’s when he determined it was more than just that one connector. I bailed water for about a week and then I got a phone call from American Home Shield telling me that they have approved everything and what my cost would be for it. Then, they called me and said they had the water heater and asked what was a good day to deliver. They called and said that it would be between 12:00 and 4:00. The repair guy called me when he was at his last stop getting ready to come to my house and he replaced the water heater and put the new one in. All is good at my house now.

Our furnace quit running and I submitted the claim for it online to American Home Shield on a weekend, so there was nobody who could come out until Monday. The technician who came was really nice and he fixed it really fast. The furnace has been running fine since then and except for the fact that we went three days without heat, the experience overall has been really good.

There was a leak in the dishwasher and it took one or two days for a tech to come out, which was quick. The tech was professional and evaluated it quickly, and had the part needed on the truck. They fixed it and were in and out within 30 to 45 minutes. The outcome was what I wanted so that was good. It’s the first time I’ve used American Home Shield but I anticipate it to be very valuable. And I may renew it, even just ‘cause it makes sense to have one.

We had a kitchen light-fan replaced right over my stove and my wife submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. She felt she had issues when we first got this started. The buck kept getting passed and dropped. The first technician that American Home Shield hired to come and check it out, Tom, said it was gonna be more feasible to put a new one in rather than trying to fix the old one. Right there, somebody dropped the ball and the light-fan didn't get ordered for another week. I called the technician but he had something else to do. I got back with AHS and it was like they lost what was going on.
It was a few days and my wife had to call AHS back a couple of times and finally, somebody picked it up. They found somebody else and finally got it ordered. The ones that came this time were really great and the technician knew what he was doing. He got busy and got the light-fan up in there. American Home Shield would probably save others money in the long run, though they may also have some experiences with it.

One of my pool's PVC pipes had been busted. I submitted a claim for it to American Home Shield and it was easy doing that online. Then the tech came out and I wasn't at home so I talked to him over the phone and told him that the gate was open. He fixed the pipe and then contacted me back when he was done. It was an easy deal. Everything was fine and taken care of. However, when I had a problem with my water heater in the past, the techs came out to do it and there was some grease on it. So, that one wasn’t as smooth as the simple pool PVC pipe fix.

The people at American Home Shield are great. I had an appliance claim for the dishwasher. I called AHS and I had a little problem with the automated part, but they put me over to a real human, they immediately said who we would be dealing with and the techs came out. The only thing I would like to have is a new ID card because for some reason, AHS keep changing my customer number and I got them written at the back of the card. But other than that, I’ve always had a good response with AHS. They’ve always been the greatest because I had a few things that have happened. My refrigerator went out. Now, the dishwasher and my pool pump. I just had the hot water heater blow its bottom out and flooded the garage and we were without hot water for a few days. But everything seemed to be working fine now.

Besides the usual nasty people working at the company, this review is specific to a recent occurrence. Our original contract included coverage for the water softener in our home which I had confirmed in a chat with one of the employees at the company the day the policy was purchased. I called to put in a claim today and was told I did not choose the option to be covered for the water softener. I advised Claudia in customer service I had an email confirming in fact I was covered.
She then put me on a 10 minute hold. She came back on the phone and told me I had not chosen the option to be covered upon renewal. I asked her to send me proof that I was given the choice to purchase the option. She put me on a 10 minute hold. She came back on and said that the company stopped covering water softeners starting 01/2018 and that a letter was sent advising of such. I asked her to provide me a copy of the letter. She put on a 5 minute hold. She came back on the phone and advised me they had no copies of any letter or email to show me.
I don't write angry reviews and in fact I am still not angry, just very disappointed that these people get away with these things and I hope that other people will not be convinced into buying a plan with this company. It's not the matter they don't cover it anymore, it's a matter of changing their story 4 times and having no proof or evidence to provide that they ever notified us of a change in our plan even as we continue to pay. What would be next... A refrigerator not being covered, a well pump, dishwasher?? Basically they are asking us to pay and hope our claim will be covered in the future? Not good and very unprofessional.

Buyer beware of this warranty company. They use vague language in the contract to deny coverage. I had an evaporator coil for my ac unit that needed to be replaced. American Home Shield said my out of pocket cost was $1615.00! I did not understand what was being said because they said the cost of the new evaporator coil and installation was covered. To make a long story short and to the point after hours of waiting on hold with American Home Shield, THEY DON'T COVER IT. AHS cost was actually higher than if you get your any company with no home warranty and pay for it yourself. My cost with American Home Shield $1615. The cost of a different company I used was $1100.00! The difference is you don’t need to pay $75 for house call and whatever your ridiculous monthly or yearly premium is. Do not use American Home Shield, they are scamming people.

I recently made a service request to have my A/C unit looked at. AHS sent out a company who recommended that my 2.5 ton unit be replaced. I reached back out to AHS today because I had not heard from them as to the next steps. I find out that they are requesting a 2nd opinion on the diagnosis by one of their approved vendors. Apparently, they disagree with the diagnosis and want to send another company out...whom I suspect will give a bogus diagnosis. Not only have they not found another vendor yet, but now not only will I have to continue to deal with a broken A/C unit as it gets hotter outside but I will have to take additional time off work to be there whenever they decide to come. I'm really disappointed with AHS at this moment. However, I shouldn't be surprised based off of the reviews I have read thus far. They seem to pull stunts like this when there are big ticket items involved.

I subscribed to AHS two months ago. You are told that you cannot call a claim in until 30 days has past. I called a claim in about 45 days in and was promised a service person in 24-48 hours. I called the company repeatedly over three weeks and they could find no one. They told me I had to find someone and they would possibly reimburse me. I joined the service because I could not find anyone to work on my appliances in the first place so that was not a possibility. I called to cancel my policy multiple times and was put on hold literally for over 30 minutes each time.
I wanted a full reimbursement for the false advertising and breach of contract. I was told that they would cancel my service but I would not be reimbursed. The representative told me it was over 30 days so no refund... But you cannot call until 30 days has passed so how does that make any sense? I feel this is extremely unfair as it cost me over 140.00 for absolutely nothing. The customer service was extremely rude and unhelpful.
Good evening Corinne,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience after becoming a customer of American Home Shield. I am aware that you have canceled your contract due to the hold times and delay to have your issue serviced. I would be glad to speak with you and hopefully, reach a resolution.

My AC broke Saturday. I've requested service. AHS assigned service company (Airtronics) which called me Monday left message asking to call them back. I've tried but voicemail box was full and they didn't pick up other phone. I've checked that Airtronics has the worst reviews in whole Houston since 2015 and many clients were asking AHS to find different supplier but apparently AHS doesn't care about quality and reliability of service providers.
I've called AHS Monday. After 50 minutes listening music and how important I am they said they cannot do anything. I also don't understand why I need to give contract number and ZIP when I call and repeat all when someone pickup the phone (?). Tuesday I called AHS again. After 30 minutes I've learn that Airtronics claims that they've scheduled appointment but I didn't confirm. On Saturday, May 12, 2018 I requested a service call for my central air. I contacted AHS to inquire about when I will be contacted by contractor and I was informed Monday, the 14th. I asked to speak to someone else to see about a quicker response time. I was on hold for one hour and 15 minutes. She was able to get someone out to my house on Sunday. Technician arrived, diagnosed the problem and said it would “maybe” be Wednesday before he could make the repair. Monday, the 14th, the technician calls me to ask that I take a photo of the information plate on the side of my unit, he forgot to get information when he was here on Sunday.
So I call the technician on Tuesday the 15th to see if he is going to be here on Wednesday, and to no surprise, it has now been pushed back to “maybe” Thursday. He stated that since he was late getting the information about my unit that it has been pushed back a day. I have contacted AHS again on the 15th, and talking to their customer service is one of the most infuriating experiences you can have. I asked to speak the escalation team member, and was told they were not in yet. The woman repeatedly spoke over me telling that they were doing everything by the guidelines. Apparently there are no guidelines for how long the contractor has to complete a job. I still have not been contacted by AHS to let me know what is going on with my service request. I would not recommend this company to anyone. All they care about is getting their monthly service fee. They in no way have demonstrated that they care about my comfort or convenience.

I emailed a work order on Sunday May 13th. I received a text at 11:15 on Monday from the company that was assigned to my order. They called me at approximately 3:15 to ask questions about the washer. I was told based on what I said the washer was doing it would be 3 to 5 business days for a part to be ordered and a week and 1/2 before they could get here to install it. I called AHS after being on hold for over 30 minutes and explaining to the representative that it was ridiculous to wait that long to get the washer repaired. I then ask if I could schedule the work and get reimbursed. After waiting on hold another 15 minutes I was told that was not possible and they had no other contractors who could come any sooner.
I then went to HomeAdvisor and quickly found a company with great reviews who will be at my home this morning and if a part is needed it should be here in a day or two and can be installed in a couple of days. I am completely disappointed in AHS handling of this situation and do not feel that someone should be expected to go almost 2 weeks without an appliance. I have been with them for 2 years now and expected much better customer service. I will be looking for another home warranty company that can give me a better response time. I will also be complaining to the BBB.

We suspected a pipe leak. Contacted our home warranty American Home Shield, and they sent out Budget Rooters. The plumber said he couldn't duplicate the leak when turning on the upstairs bathtub (leak was in our kitchen ceiling below). Plumber does zero investigation for any other cause but assumes there is mold and can't do work until mold is removed. We pay out of pocket $900 for a mold company to cut a 3ft hole in our ceiling, only to find... ZERO MOLD. Plumber comes back out, still can't find a leak. Finally does a little more investigation and finds the tub spout has water flowing back into the valve, which caused the water to seep through our kitchen ceiling. He replaced a $7 tub spout and left us with a $1500 bill for non-existent mold and an unnecessary hole in our ceiling. We called AHS and after 3 calls, finally a supervisor called back. She informed us they don't cover mold and it's "not our problem".
YOUR COMPANY contracted with an inexperienced plumbing company who did Jack ** except turn on a faucet. He could've easily dug a little deeper that first visit, and avoid leaving us with $1500 in absolutely unnecessary repairs!! "Not our problem??" Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service from the supervisor. Even your rep gasped and said "oh no, that is crazy" when I called the first time. This is BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE we've ever had. We will be shopping elsewhere ASAP for a different Home Warranty company.

My pool pump motor burned out, the shaft seal is bad, the strainer cover will not seal, and the union is bad. The only parts left are the casing, the impeller, and the strainer basket. The pump truly needs to be replaced. The contractor made it clear that he worked for AHS, not me. The contractor ordered parts, and I'm not sure he ordered all the parts required for the repair. He did not itemize the work he was going to do, like it was none of my business. I called AHS, and after being on hold for 40 minutes, was told I could request a second opinion, possible paying another trade fee, or I could request a cash out. They couldn't tell me the amount of the cash out. The "service" associate had a "take it or leave it" attitude. I will never recommend American Home Shield.

I’ve called American Home Shield twice for claims and they were fabulous and quick both times. The first time, it was the heater and I didn’t know what to do so I called them and the second time, the air conditioner was kicking off and on. There was no cool air coming in and it was just blowing hot air. The tech who came out spent an hour and a half at my house checking to see what the problem was. He found that there was a connection that had been fried in the unit upstairs so he fixed the connector and reattached it to where it was supposed to go on the board. He waited and checked to make sure to make sure cool air was coming into the house. He used his temperature gun to see if it coincided with the thermostat. Everything was good and I had no problem with him coming. They gave me a window when they were gonna be there and he arrived within that window.
When I submitted the claim, they called and I got a text message from them on the same day telling me who would be coming out to my residence to call them to make arrangements to work out a window when they could respond to my house. The company they sent was prompt in responding and I've had no issues or concerns about what they repaired. Everything's been working solid. AHS is reliable and they take care of your request and concerns. They’re concerned about getting somebody to your residence as quickly as possible to remedy whatever the situation is.

I had an issue with my AC and my furnace just went off. I contacted AHS and they put in a new AC, furnace, and thermostat for me. But when I turned on the AC to see if it was working, it cooled off but it wouldn’t shut off and it wasn’t ticking on and off. I called the company that installed it but they said it was not under warranty and that I had to call my warranty company. They also told me that since I went through AHS, I had no coverage on it through them anymore. But if I bought it through them, I would have had $108.
So, I called AHS and their rep said that they would send someone else but I had to pay $75 again. When I told her that I just had it installed November of 2017, she said that I had no warranty through them after 30 days. And when, they came out and worked on the new AC, they asked me if I wanted them to take the service fee out of the account right away or wait 72 hours after the work was completed. I told her to wait until for the 72 hours. Then I got an email saying that I owed $75 for the service fee. I thought it was just a scam, so I decided not to reply to it and I didn’t do anything.
Then, I got a letter saying I had a past due of $75. But they were supposed to take it out of that account that I gave them. They always have. So, I called and got their supervisor on the phone. I told her that they got the account number right there and they have taken the $75 out of it after they installed my furnace and my AC. But she said that they didn’t take service fees out of there, just my monthly bill. Then, she wanted me to give her new information to set up a new account. But I refused as they already got my account online that they’ve always used. So, I was upset and I told her that I was tired of all of it. There were so many times that I had to keep calling them at Home Shield and it was like I had to jump through hoops.
So, I’ve been through a lot here lately with American Home Shield and I’m very frustrated. I also don’t appreciate getting a letter that I’m overdue on something when they’ve always used that same account that I supplied. And after pulling teeth, getting Freon for three years and paying $200 each time, I finally got a new furnace but had no warranty under it. So, I was very dissatisfied.

The plumber that was sent to me was not professional. They claimed the pressure on the water main was too high and they went in and replaced the pressure valve. But I called somebody who knows plumbing and I was told that when the so-called professionals measured the water pressure in the house, what they actually measured was the water pressure on the sprinklers. Also, plumber that was sent said they were not going to fix my problem because the pressure was too high when actually the pressure was okay. So, although they replaced the water pressure valve, they did not fix the actual problem that I called them for because they said that was not covered. And that was very bad for me because what I wanted was to fix the problem inside the house, not the water pressure and because of their unprofessional service, they claimed it was something else.
I spoke to the person in charge of guiding or authorizing the services from American Home Shield and they said that the contractor is right because they don’t cover dirt damage problems. So, American Home Shield was misguided by the plumbing company that was servicing them. The plumbers were two very young people and they were just finding excuses not to fix the problem. I tried to convince them that it was inside the house but they were looking for the outside valve instead. Nevertheless, the other services that I have had in the past through American Home Shield were good and I've been pretty happy with them.

When the compressor went out, I talked to American Home Shield's rep and it was a good interaction. They walked me through, asked me everything about what was going on with it and asked if I had a question. Recently, my wife called in a claim for the AC since the outside unit was making some noise and it turned out it was a fan. The guys that AHS sent from North Texas were really good, all of them were very professional and they fixed all the problems. AHS is something people would be interested in looking into for peace of mind and a little extra coverage for their homes.

My dryer was making a lot of racket and I had AHS send someone out here. The techs fixed it once before and it worked for a while. Then it came back and they were done with it. I don't think they even know what's wrong. They just said that it's the motor that's making the noise and as long as it's working, they won't fix it. Also, I have a 50-gallon water heater in the attic that is rusting inside and out. The contractor AHS sent out said that it needs to be replaced but AHS will not do it because it's still functioning. But AHS replaced my cooktop because it had things that weren't working on it and it was old enough that they couldn't get parts. My garage door opener was also covered and I had that repaired a month ago, and the guy who came was really good.

This last experience was totally different from the ones prior.
In the past, American Home Shield had been extremely hard to deal with. We've had some air conditioner issues and all they wanna do was just put a band-aid on it and go. They really didn’t wanna fix and so we still have issues with the air conditioner. Our contract states they should take care of it, but they hadn’t wanted to proceed in that direction. They did the bare minimum. I understand their business and they gotta stay in business. It's not a money issue. It's more of an issue that we feel that they're obligated and that’s what it is. And I don’t know that it was American Home Shield or it was just the people that took care of it or it was a situation where that was all they could do. I would have to give it some thought before I'd recommend American Home Shield. I'd tell others to maybe shop around a little.

A technician came out the next day and fixed it up and the sump pump has been great since. The contractor was so good, I called him back for other things. He's been out a total of three times now and he's done great stuff. But I'm not gonna renew with AHS, it's just too expensive. But if anyone is buying a house, they should get the warranty.

Submitting a claim online at American Home Shield was easy. My dishwasher would not run through a whole cycle and I looked in the manual, and it said about a clogged line. The contractor who came out started to check and he said that the sensor board has shorted. He told me that it happens all the time, but I insisted that the manual said a clogged line. He told me then that he tripped it and had seen the board. He ordered another sensor board, and it took about seven business days. He came back and put it in. Ever since then, everything has been running good. The contractor was great. He gave me an advice because I thought he couldn’t fix it. I asked him about Bosch and he mentioned some others. He told me that I can get one, but he said too that everything has had problems with the sensor board. Overall, AHS has been great and it has been a stress-free experience.

I had a stoppage in my pipe. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out. He sent a snake down my pipe and once he found tree roots, that voided my contract so I had to pay out of pocket. The other issue I had was my dishwasher that stopped working. The repair guy came out once or twice and then after that my dishwasher just completely crapped out and American Home Shield replaced it. So, that was pretty cool. Submitting a claim is pretty easy. Most of the time I just call them, tell them I need service, and they find a contractor. It takes a couple of days to get a contractor. And the contractor goes from there, and I just pay my $75 fee. Most of them were friendly. They knew what they were doing, and they didn’t leave my house a mess. Issue with microwave - The only good portion of the experience has been the initial scheduling of the service call as the operator was very friendly and quick. The person who scheduled the service call said the tech would call before they arrived, they did not. Next the Tech said they needed to order parts, no issue there. After 3 days of not hearing anything I called American Home Shield to get an update. They couldn't give me any info, 3 more days go by and I call American Home Shield again. The lady I spoke to said that when the parts arrive the Tech would call me.
I go around American Home Shield and call the Service company directly and they tell me the parts are going to be shipped to my home but they haven't shipped yet and a service call has been placed for 2 days from now. It's also my responsibility to call them back if the parts don't arrive to reschedule??? The American Home Shield website says it has "chat". It hasn't been available once and they have no email address listed on the Contact Us site.
Updated on 07/10/2018: Going on 2 months without an installed and working Microwave. AHS has still not rectified my previous issues. After the repairman blew up my microwave that AHS chose to fix it they had no choice but to buy another one. The new one is 1 inch taller than the previous one. This is the microwave that AHS chose not me. AHS wont pay to finish the installation, they wont substitute it with one that will without charging me a $100 restocking fee for the microwave they chose. The person I spoke to said they dont actually check to see if it fits. They just base it on features.
Hello, Robert. I apologize that you have had delays in completion. Sears does not contact us with their diagnosis and they do order the parts to deliver to your home. I was an AHS customer for eleven years, twenty two if you count the fact that I had two eleven year contracts at the same time for two different properties. It was ups and downs during that time. It was always a hassle dealing with them, it would frequently take multiple calls with horrible wait times to get something fixed. I was without a working oven and stove October through January, have been without a washing machine for weeks many times but have stuck with them because I felt I at least broke even. But that has changed. I just canceled both contracts. They are no longer covering what they used to and are charging extra fees left and right. But the biggest problem is the way they deal with service providers.
I have only had problems with appliance repair, everything else has been a mixed bag but you stand a decent chance of getting a good company. In our city, Las Vegas, there is one family or group that has many different appliance repair companies under different names. At one time I had 4 companies blocked from coming to my house because they were so incompetent and in one situation actually threatening. But because they change company names so much, they just kept coming back. I had an issue with my washer, they sent out one company that was the same people, different company name, I asked for a second opinion, they sent out a different company in name... but same people! Even though the technician said that the issue was a poorly installed part to us, he told AHS something else. I do not have time for this complete and total lack of customer service? Do you?

We are having issues with our original AC unit from the late 1980s/early 1990s. The air handler leaked and it needs to be replaced ASAP and we will need to replace over 8 pounds of Freon that was lost into the environment (cost of Freon only is $1140). Our condenser is old and currently shows no sign of needing repairs or replacement. So we did our research on what is best to do in this situation. We had two HVAC professionals review our situation and their conclusion was to upgrade to a new unit ($3000). They believe that our condenser will only last for 6 months to a few years. Upgrading to a new unit is what they professionally recommend because a new condenser will have the newer type of Freon in it and the 8 pounds we will replace in the old unit will be thrown out upon upgrading.
Our system is past its expected lifespan and needs to be replaced especially due to this situation. One of the professionals stated that he used to work for companies like AHS and had to quit due to the lack of understanding of these type of situations. He looks at what is best for all - company, customer and environment. After researching online, there is evidence that Freon is one of the most significant environmental pollutants and caused serious health risks to humans. This situation has put me in a moral dilemma with AHS and their lack of compassion and understanding the damage that Freon does to our environment. I believe this company is only about the bottom line and not about doing what is right for humans and our environment.
After further thought, I asked if they would split the cost of a new condenser. This would limit the amount of Freon to be used and hopefully this will lead to less of an environmental damage. Our children's future is more important than money. Currently, we only need to pay $1140 for Freon, we are offering to pay $1500 for a new system (that is not needed at this time). If the system would break in 6 months - AHS would have to cover $3000. The AHS representative stated that is not in the contract and they only follow what the contract states. I felt like this employee only knew how to read off of a script and could not do what she felt was right.
I believe AHS does not support the decision making skills of their employees, lacks compassion and understanding for their customers who want to do what's best for the environment. AHS only cares about the bottom line -money. After almost 2 hours on the phone (over an hour of waiting) trying to resolve this situation I got nothing. Is $1500 or $3000 worth the effects of Freon? I think not! Guess we will be looking for a new company come renewal time. Anyone have suggestions?
I understand your concerns with the noncovered cost to replace your air conditioning system and the freon associated to complete the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution with the best possible replacement options.

Upon receipt of the payment he notified me he couldn't work on the air conditioner unit, stated he would have the correct service representative sent to fix it and left. At no time did he even enter the house or look at the unit at the back of it. Another service representative was never dispatched. It backed up and everything’s good now. I like American Home Shield and I just love to see what the price would be if I had to replace things periodically and it’s about the same.
It’s a good insurance for the big things. But 15 years ago, they were a pain to deal with and I thought about quitting back then. Sometimes they didn’t want to cover something or I had to talk to them on the phone a lot. But I hung with it and it's been a whole lot better the past couple of years. I’ve been with AHS for 11 years and I have a very good experience them and I am very happy. I get some offers from other people but I’m staying with AHS. I recommended AHS to a few of my friends about three years ago and they’re still with them.

I called American Home Shield because I have a broken pipe. After waiting a very long time for my call to be answered, I finally got through to a representative who could barely speak English. After verifying my name, address, and phone number, she repeatedly answered questions I did not ask, and put me on hold for a few minutes to get help with my issue. After setting me up with a plumber who was unable to come out that week, I called back to AHS and went through the whole thing again, with another girl whose accent was so thick I could barely understand her. I made an appointment with another plumber for that week.
The day of the appointment, I received an email from AHS stating they had canceled the appointment. I called AHS and asked why they had canceled the appointment (yes, I had to re-verify all of my information first, with some girl who could barely speak English, of course - apparently the only kind of employee they have), and she said she didn't know why they had canceled the appointment. This answer was provided after leaving me on hold for several minutes. Because of the appointment, I had to take time off work. Because of the cancellation, I went to work, but I still have not had the pipe fixed.
I feel like they take my payment every month, but are very reluctant to provide service when needed, and apparently decide to not provide service if they can get away with it. Their website includes no email contact info, only a phone number, which is not answered outside of office hours, so there is no one to complain to unless one wants to go through the long wait, the re-verification of identity, and a conversation with people who cannot understand or help. "I don't know" should not be a resolution to a problem.
Hello, Diane. I apologize that you found it difficult to speak with our representatives. We definitely want to make sure you have the correct contact information to reach AHS' customer service department. Unfortunately, we do not have any email address for service. On December 29, 2017, I had called for service/repair. I had to call again because the contractor never called, even though I had received a text that they would call. Needless to say, the service person didn’t show until February after complaining to AHS. When the service person came, he wrote a work order and said he would return once he got the supplies needed to fix my plumbing. I had to call AHS again at the end of February because the contractor didn’t return. In March, I was charged $75 for a service that I didn’t receive. When voicing my complaint with an AHS Representative I was told that I couldn’t have a refund, even though nothing was repaired, if I wanted another contractor, I had to pay another $75 and when asked to speak with a supervisor, I was placed on multiple holds, only to be told that I had to wait 24-48 hours for a supervisor to return my call with. Mind you I didn’t get a call from a supervisor.
Anyway, on March 13 the same serviceman came, he had no tools and no worksheet. He looked at the items that needed repair and said he’ll be back within a week. I asked him if he needed to write it down and he said he has the other work order and he didn’t have to write it down. He hasn’t been back. My husband called AHS in April and spoke with a supervisor that was rude, who refused to give us a refund and who refused to send another contractor out to fix our plumbing problem. They would only get another contractor if we paid another $75. I’m so dissatisfied in the service and the aloof attitude from a company that continues to charge their monthly fee and who had taken the $75 service fee and in return they provided no service or repairs to the items that I called about that is under their contract.

Recently the refrigerator was leaking and I filed a claim for it online. The contractors came when they said they were coming and since the repair, the refrigerator has worked perfectly. My experience with AHS was effortless and I have recommended them to a friend.

I got a quick response from the appliance place that was gonna handle the dryer and they came out. They had to order a part and then they put it in. The dryer is fine now and it's just like it was before. I've been with American Home Shield for at least 14 years now and if I'm not okay with them, I would call then they would take care of it. I've also recommended them to a lot of people.

I just moved from the East Coast and the plumbing is set up differently there than it is in this new home. I was having an issue with turning the pipes on in all my bathrooms. It turned out to be a really simple issue of pulling out the faucet knob and turning it as opposed to just turning, but I didn’t know that and thought the faucets were broken. I wasn’t able to use them and I got my family taking baths in the sink. I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield and it was during abnormal working hours, so I didn’t get any response back until that Monday. But once they responded to my claim, they got somebody out quickly.
The plumber was really helpful and took his time in walking me through everything. I'm a first-time homebuyer, so it meant a lot for me to get somebody who was willing to walk me through the process and not make me feel dumb even though I was doing something dumb. I'm grateful for American Home Shield and I'd definitely recommend them.

I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield for a garbage disposal. I did replace the garbage disposal before through AHS. This probably wasn’t my best experience because the garbage disposal that was installed had a slow leak that I wasn’t aware of because I had so many items under the sink. When I went to retrieve them, I realize that I had water everywhere. The contractor replaced the garbage disposal. He fixed AHS’s first plumber's work and he did a great job. But I am disappointed that I basically paid twice and I’m upset with myself. I should've realized that it was leaking sooner. When the first guy installed the garbage disposal, I noticed that there was an exposed wires, and I was like, “Oh well, I’m not gonna worry about that. The garbage disposal’s there. I’ll keep it moving.” Nonetheless, there are no leaks and it’s working again. I’m very satisfied with that.
I had a very pleasant experience with AHS. Most of the contractors that work with them are very good. Sometimes you have to go through a few lemons to get that good contractor but I think that’s with anything. I do appreciate having the coverage. And they do trans screening too so I don’t feel like I’m just calling someone out of the yellow pages. And the work that the good contractors do is excellent. I have recommended them to several friends.
Good morning Statha,
I enjoyed reading your feedback about your most recent experience to have the garbage disposal repaired. I am glad to hear about the updated experience and the contractor that came to repair the leak. I am glad that the repairs were beyond your satisfaction and I hope that you continue to have a good experience.

I had a problem with our water heater. We haven't had hot water for days and we couldn't even take a bath or a shower. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Top Notch Plumbing came out and I wasn't pleased with their service. They came out three times and it was something different each time. The first person who came out was nice. And the hot water heater was supposed to be fixed the first time but it wasn't. Then the second person came out and said that he was a professional and a master plumber. He was bragging on his skills. He kept telling this and that was wrong but whatever it was didn't work. He said that the water heater should come back on after 45 minutes. But I waited for 2 hours and it never came back on. So for the third time, the second plumber came back to say he already knew what the problem was. I told him that he told me he knew what it was back then.
Also, the rep from that company was really nasty. She told me to boil some water instead. I called American Home Shield and told them about it. They said they were going to send somebody else as soon as possible. They also said it might take a couple of days but it was more than a couple of days for somebody to actually come out. I would not recommend Top Notch Plumbing.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have a home warranty with AHS and I will continue it. It's a fantastic value especially when you buy a mobile home. I'd rather be safe than sorry. When the fan stopped working on my AC unit outside, I've had several people out here for almost a year to work on it and they've already fixed that several times supposedly. I submitted the claim online and the first three guys who came out were good but the other people didn't notice the coolant.
Recently, JW Ultra Air Heating & Cooling came out and I told them the fan wasn't running again so that it wouldn't bring in heat or cool air. The tech looked at it and said that all of the coolant leaked out which caused the problem. I'm assuming that that happened when the fan fell off of it and did some damage inside, which should have been fixed the last time. So, I had to pay for the Freon to be put back in. The tech has been here before and he was great. He explained what was going on as well as what it was gonna have to be. He was really nice about it especially knowing that I was gonna have to pay out cash for the Freon because it was not included in my coverage.

We have a single level home with two restrooms. When one started running, the other one started as well. We filed a claim about a year ago and AHS sent plumbers and they fixed both toilets. Our toilet was most recently done again. A plumber came yesterday to fix the guest room toilet. It was the same toilet, the reason and the same replacement. I asked the plumber if it was normal that it should go out in a year and he said that it really depended on the product that they used to replace it. My concern is that they possibly, on the second restroom, only replaced that pump part as opposed to replacing the flap part. The one that we had in our master bathroom was completely different from what the plumber replaced last night.
A year prior, when they got replaced, they used different stuff in our bathroom from what they did in the other one so it meant that they didn’t replace it when they should have had. The guy was really good by admitting that saying, “They should have replaced everything. One can cause the other to be a problem.” This makes a problem with my water bill. American Home Shield has been good but sometimes the contractors have may have been questionable. I had a situation a year or two ago where I had put a claim in and the contractor never contacted us. I had to call American Home Shield, request the service again and to have them send somebody out.

My experience with American Home Shield has been outstanding. The mode had gone out on my washer and it wasn’t draining so I called it in. The representative on the phone was very professional and pleasant. She jumped on it really quickly and got everything set up. It was not even two hours before I got the call from the maintenance personnel.
The contractor came in but then he had to get a part and that took him three days. When that part came in, it wasn’t what he was looking for. He thought the issue was in the fuse but that wasn’t it. So he continued to check the washer out and he found out that it could be the motor. But instead of ordering the motor through American Home Shield, I found out that he ordered it through their carrier and it took him a week to get the motor in. But that was the only one that I’ve had a pause and that was on the contractor. As far as American Home Shield goes, they've been great and the contractor that they sent out had done their job well. I have been very pleased and I’ve recommended them to several people.

They came back out and they did it, the thermostat worked but that one was no good so, they put another one in. They still didn’t fix the problem. The third time, they still didn’t fix the problem so another company had to come out.
The tech from Myers got an attitude. He said that the unit was old at first and it wasn’t repairable. And I was like, "Okay, why didn’t you write it up?" He never wrote it up and he never signed in. I kept on calling back to American Home Shield so that they could let them know that it still wasn’t fixed but they were saying that he didn’t put what was the problem on there. All our appliances are covered and I recommend the home warranty to everybody. If you don’t have American Home Shield, then you're going to be spending a lot more money. The only things is they wait until an appliance is on its last leg. It has to be completely gone before they'll buy us out most of the time. Our microwave blew some circuits and it was interesting that they would spend $500 on a microwave that's 10 years old instead of letting us get a new one. The microwave works great now but there are still bulbs that are burnt that I gotta replace. The technician gave me the part numbers to order though, so that was above and beyond what he needed to do. But if you have to wait for the item, like a refrigerator, to go out and it takes a week to get the money and get a new replacement, that's the only thing I can see as a downfall.

The issue was that I thought there was a leak in the toilet itself but it appeared that it wasn't that, but also the feed line from the main line. It goes up to the bottom of the stool and it appeared that it was leaking there. When the plumber came, he looked at it and thought that it was loose. He then tried to tighten it up then he told us that we needed to watch it just to make sure it was not that feeder line because it could have also been there. But it was still leaking so they came back and fixed it. The toilet fill valve is what we have replaced and that goes into the bottom where the water lines come up.

The customer service agents are okay and so far, they’ve been cooperative. It takes a little time but they work with you. Sometimes American Home Shield sends some technicians that are not up to the task but we persist. Then we finally get the right technician and the job gets done. But that’s with every business. You can’t control the vendors you have.
We had one of those wall units that has an oven and microwave, and one of the critical components inside the microwave broke. We had several visits by several technicians until one finally determined what the matter was. It needed replacement but we couldn’t replace the original one because it was out of stock. Absolute horror show. Worst company I've ever worked with. During the home inspection, it was discovered that the HVAC was not cooling properly and needed repairs. The sellers agreed to repair or replace the unit. BGE Home came and made repairs and reported that is was in "good working condition". According to the contract, this would seem to qualify as a covered item - see below:
"A Covered Item malfunction that predates your Agreement Term is not covered under your Agreement unless the malfunction (1) was revealed during a home or other inspection that predated your Agreement Term and subsequent proof of repair is provided to AHS’ reasonable satisfaction". We moved into the home on July and the HVAC was cooling the home to our satisfaction for almost a week, then it stopped working and would not cool the home at all. We placed a service call on 8/5 and a technician came out on 8/8 and reported that the HVAC needed full replacement.
The coverage of replacement of the HVAC system was then denied because it was labeled as a "pre-existing condition". I was also told that if I had just simply turned on the unit I would have known it was not working. However, the unit did work for us several days before it failed. We would not have waited several days to place a request if it was not working, because it was the end of July/beginning of August and very hot. Now, the whole reason I purchased a home warranty from AHS was because of the fantastic reviews as well as my conversations with the sales team. I was told absolutely my system would be covered under the current situation (the HVAC was not broken yet) that the sellers made repairs on the HVAC system and as long as it's in working condition (which it was at the time) then it would be covered.
Of course I was denied. I then called in to the sales team again and acted as if I wasn't a customer yet and to see what they would say. I described the same exact situation (that had already happened to me) and guess what? THEY LIED AND SAID ABSOLUTELY MY HVAC WOULD BE COVERED. Not only l did I try this once, but I tried it again and they said the same thing. So now I've been lied to on 3 different occasions. I wrote letters, I sent emails, and called and called and called. It wasn't until my realtor called the AHS rep and said, "Hey you better take care of my client or I won't send you business anymore." Finally I get a call back from AHS and they said, "Oh we can fix your HVAC system." "What?!!" I exclaimed, "I thought you told me it was completely broken and needed to be replaced, so now you can magically repair it!?" Of course the girl didn't have a meaningful response. So now I've been lied to 4 times.
Anyway, I agreed and said, "Fine. Just fix it, I've been without air for a month in the middle of summer." So then she tells me that they will cover the mechanical part that's broken, but it's going to cost me $800 out of pocket. So basically, they wanted to put a Band-Aid on a 30 year HVAC system and have me sink 800 into it, only for it to break next month again and I'm back in the same boat. In the end I said, "Screw it, I'll take the cash out value of the policy and replace the unit myself (Cash out was a mere $750). I was so frustrated with these scam artists at this point. It was near impossible to get the check from them. I had to jump through hoop after hoop after hoop just to get my stupid check. Finally I did and I hoped I'd never have to work this absolute lying, cheating, scam artists again.
Lastly (this is a small thing, but it still really frustrated me). I noticed an outstanding balance after they came out and fixed a couple repairs on my dryer. I had pre-paid every service call so I knew I didn't owe any money. I jumped on the chat line and to my surprise it was painless and easy. The gentleman assured me I had already paid. To disregard the payment because I had already paid. I screenshotted the conversation just so I'd have proof later on because I knew these idiots would find a way to screw me. So a month or two later I got a letter saying I was past due on my payment. So I logged online and saw my account owed a balance. I tried calling in but their phone lines are absolutely a joke. Being transferred here and transferred there waiting forever. I tried the chat online chat again, but it was mysteriously removed from my account as an option to contact them.
Finally without being able to reach anyone, I just left it alone and said it's not my problem. It's their fault and the gentleman had already told me to disregard it. A few months later I jumped to place a service call and guess what? My account was frozen from placing a service call because I didn't pay my bill. I jumped on to try the chat line again and of course it says "Chat not available at this time". So now my accounts frozen and my dishwasher is broken. So I guess I'll try calling these mindless idiots one last time... They are a scam.

The reps at AHS are wonderful. I like to schedule online if possible because phone wait times are very long. I have had claims for several items in my home. My disappointment is restrictions of the contractors they send out. I usually call in because there are two companies that I never want to see in my home again because of attitudes and dishonesty.
Let me begin with attitude. Findlay Plumbing is the go to for AHS in my neck of the woods. He really didn't want to replace my water heater because the placement is very difficult. They did approve replacement! Go AHS!!! He complained the entire time he was at my home. I never want him back in my home and asked AHS to note that on my account. I guess the Reps can't do that because if I book online I get Findlay. I call instead.
Last summer, in hot Texas, my A/C went out! The reps were great as usual! The contractor was not! AHS replaced my compressor! YIPEE! That was great, Contractor? Not so much. The unit went out 2 days later. They came back, they had forgotten to put something in my unit. Two days later, my unit was out again. I called AHS this time because I wanted a different contractor. This man came out and I showed him the work order that had been given to me. I asked if he could check the hoses that I had been charged for because they looked like the old ones to me.
Those hoses were out of my pocket because they weren't covered. Turns out they were not replaced. US AIR did refund me after I called them. It was a $200.00 overcharge. I reported this to AHS and never heard back. That was summer of 2017 and my central unit only worked intermittently, so I purchased a small window unit to get me through the summer because I didn't want to spend hours on the phone and miss work again and again. I had just started my job in April. Today my water heater is out again. I could do the claim online and risk getting Findlay Plumbing or sit on the phone for who knows how long. With all that said, I like AHS. I wish they would listen to their customers with regard to contractor complaints.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been a good experience. My most recent repair was for a dishwasher and we received a fast and friendly service. The first time the technician came, he declared that the drain valve was stuck while the unit was continually stuck on the purge cycle. He came back later and replaced the control panel and we've not had any problems with it since.

I just had a drip on a faucet, and we called American Home Shield. My wife gave the information and they scheduled an appointment for a service contractor to come out. The guy came out and fixed it in about 10 minutes and it was fine. We’ve been with AHS since mid-March, but they’re not really very clear and it’s not easy to figure out exactly what is covered and what is not. We had another issue with the dryer and I basically called and they said that it was not covered. So, I had to call somebody else to get that repaired.

We had an issue with the hot water heater. When I made the claim to American Home Shield the first time, the drip pan was full of water. The technician went inside and said that the thermostat was set differently. One was at 100 and the other was at 150 but they were supposed to be at 125 each so he changed them. He said that he thought that would fix it but if not, to call him back and it’s gotta be the elements and thermostat. There was water coming out again so I called him back. He came out and changed the elements and the thermostat. When we were taking showers, it wasn’t leaking a lot of water. But when my wife would take a bath, it gets to a certain amount of water and then it would leak water again. The third time the technician came, he called AHS and said that the prognosis was that there was a crack in the thing. That was why we went forward with getting a new hot water heater.
Joe was the plumber who installed the hot water heater. He had one guy that he calls for American Home Shield every time and they were on speakerphone so I heard what they were covering. The weird thing was I had called American Home Shield to ask about my coverage and the rep said that if it has to do with the hot water of my house, I'm covered for $2000. But when I talked to Joe, he said that was not the case and it was totally an out of pocket expense for the owner. But AHS still covered $150 and I paid $275 out of pocket. In fact, ever since we've had American Home Shield, it’s been great and I've had no problems whatsoever.

I had a faucet leak. At first, I went online to submit a claim with AHS and then I had a couple more questions, so I ended up calling them and filing the claim through a customer service rep. My question was answered and the experience was very pleasant. The claim was done in a timely manner too, but the contractor had to come out a little bit later due to my scheduling. The contractor that came was the same one that fixed another problem I had in the past and they've done great work. They fixed the issue within 10 minutes and it was good to go.

The water in our shower was not draining quickly enough, so the water started collecting. The claim submission to American Home Shield was pretty good. They quickly assigned a vendor but I had to call the vendor to set the appointment and they didn’t get back to me soon enough. It took about two days for them to come out. I wish American Home Shield could take more professional and better contractors. This particular contractor that they sent out though, was pretty good and professional. They took care of the problem and everything's back to normal now. They also told me things to watch out for if it happens again next time. Although I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the work of some of the contractors AHS sent out previously in terms of the way they’ve spoken and how they were unprofessional, I’ve been with them for four years and I’ve never been dissatisfied with them.

In the past year, two of the claims I had with American Home Shield were for repair and one turned out to be a replacement. Once, I did a claim online but usually, I would call them and tell them what the problem is. And then, they would assign somebody and I would get contacted by the contractor. We would set up an appointment for them to come over, check out what the problem is, and then, they would work on a solution. In the case of my washer-dryer combination that we have upstairs in our house, the original guy who came out said that he won’t be able to repair it and they’ll send somebody else from AHS. They sent somebody else who checked that out and they decided that they needed to replace the unit.
AHS is very solution-oriented and the people that they send do good work. On a scale of 1-10, they’re between 7 and 8. Two years ago, they came for my refrigerator and they had to come out twice to get the solution. But it’s easy and simple talking to them on the phone as well as scheduling the appointments. In the world of service companies, American Home Shield happened to be the first one that knocked on my door and I've worked with them with enough number of years. There were years that I didn't use them because I didn't have any service call to contact them for. And so, I just continued paying my monthly charge. I've never had a problem and they've always been quite good so, I would highly recommend them.

Recently, I had a leak in the shower head in my master bathroom, and so the water was just dripping. In Southern California, we don’t want our water to just drip. So I called American Home Shield and I told them the situation. They got a plumber so quickly. They called the plumber and then the plumber called me back. When the plumber came, he needed a cartridge which he did not have for that particular shower head. He said that he would have it in a few days, but in reality, he got it that day. And so, he came back that same day and put it in and it was wonderful. But then, when I went to take a shower, I realized that when he had put the faucet back on, he had it turned so that the water wouldn’t get really hot. So I called the plumber again and he came right back and fixed it. He was really good, professional and very nice.
So far, everything is good. The plumber did just exactly what was needed and there hasn’t been any dripping since. Also, the water gets nice and hot. I would recommend them to others. I didn’t even know there was any such thing until my girlfriend told me about AHS. And the reason I got them is that my house is 11 years old. I thought that this might be the time things start to go and AHS might be a good thing for me to have. I’m alone and I have to take care of everything myself. So, I’m glad I did it. And then, when I tried again, I got another recording. Nobody called back. It was a recording stating that Lake Norman would be coming out. And then, when they were ready to come out, Lake Norman called. I called late at night and they were out here by 12 o'clock the next day. We had a leaky PVC pipe underneath the kitchen sink, so we called American Home Shield and they did all the rest. The plumber was friendly and replaced the fixtures in the kitchen sink. The only thing I was not happy about was how much time he took. He should have had that PVC pipe in his vehicle. It’s just PVC and he’s a plumber.
Then he replaced the entire faucet and spigot in the sink. We had a screw that was stripped for the hot water and he didn’t even look at that option. He just decided he was going to replace the whole spigot thing. He could’ve gone up to Home Depot or Lowe’s to get it, but it took him three weeks to finally get this resolved. When he came out, he looked the situation over, said he had to order parts and would be back the following week, and then I didn’t hear from him for two more weeks after that. I kind of feel that he maybe took advantage of the contract and waited until he had something else in this area, but otherwise, he was fine. Everything works and I’m satisfied that the work is done. I would still tell someone that a policy with American Home Shield is a good thing to have.

Someone from AHS came over for the washer and they fixed it. But when they were looking at it and took out the faceplate, they chipped it when they were taking it apart. They were trying to use the screwdriver to pry it off and broke a piece of it off. Then they didn’t come back and replace or fix it. It was the whole faceplate of a washer, so, I can understand it would be expensive. But they were careless and they never took claim of it. Everybody else was great. So, for the most part, I’m overall happy with AHS. But they could pay for all of the Freon recharges in the air conditioning units and not just a certain amount of it. That’s what would make me go to Old Republic because they cover everything.

I have been an advocate for AHS since I started service in 2005. I felt it was the best and referred tons of people that I now regret. Over the years I have seen it less than sub par service and decline. I submitted service request for my AC no longer blowing cool air on 5/6/18. Received first diagnosis on 5/8/18 that my compressor is blown & I need 12lbs of refrigerant that will cost me $360 because AHS only pays $10 of the $40 per lbs. I received a second opinion and this company did not send the information to AHS that was actually found. My condenser label was worn off after 13yrs to be expected and they could not confirm anything. So the estimation that 1st tech gave was fraudulent. As such, this should be a case of a replaced AC unit. 2nd tech then proceeded to take a picture of my next door neighbors unit to report theirs as if it was mine since you could read their label.
I called AHS to speak to the authorization company to file a dispute and was treated terribly by customer service. I was told the supervisor would not allow them to transfer me because the call was on hold for over an hour so therefore she wouldn't take the call. HORRIBLE SERVICE! They told me the compressor was ordered and I asked if I could get hotel assistance as this is going on two weeks with no AC not to mention this is Mother's Day weekend and my mother passed recently. Customer service refused to assist and would not let me speak to anyone else. It will be 5/14/18 before compressor is received and we will continue to be without AC in this TEXAS heat! I am truly not going to continue to pay for horrible service and I will let everyone know not to go with AHS from this point forward. I don't know what happened over the years but it surely is not the same company.

I called yesterday to AHS to request service on my a/c unit not blowing cold. Response from the service company was great, within 1 hour. The rep came out to diagnose the repair, then scheduled to come back today to complete the repair. The tech advised the system takes 13.5 lbs of Freon. Freon is $35 per lb & warranty only covers $10 per lb. So I called AHS to request goodwill customer service assistance of the Freon charges. I didn't ask for it all to be covered, just a little help. All the service rep would say is "read the contract, only $10. No I can't help".
I advised this rep that I didn't get my policy until 3 weeks after purchasing the plan. I asked for a supervisor to talk with. She told me I couldn't, that I would have to email them. I asked for a supervisor 1st name and extension number or ID number to speak with, again she denied me any assistance. I feel this is poor service, the rep did not do anything to offer any satisfaction to any of my request. I should not have to reach out via email to speak with a supervisor when I am already on the phone with customer service!

They then called to say they could not come until the next week so I asked for another company, that company called to tell me I was out of their service area, keep in mind these calls included 20 minutes on hold.
When I called to tell them it was urgent and I needed expedited service as the temperature was going to 92, 93, and 93 the next three days, they informed me they do not have expedited service. American Home Shield was great. I had a dryer issue and the claims process went smooth. It was easy to get ahold of a representative and they were very pleasant. The contractor usually calls but I like to be proactive so I go ahead and call them to get on their schedule. I told them when I called what kind of dryer it was and I told them what it was doing so hopefully they might have had the part in their shop and just put it in their truck. So I left a message and they called me by the clock. They were very professional and they told me what the problem was.
Luckily the contractor had the part. The element had burned out and he showed me where it burned out and he replaced it. The dryer has been working wonderfully since the repair. I haven't had any claims for years and years and then all of a sudden this year my heater quit working and then my dryer went out but both of those times it wasn’t anything major. It was just a switch on the heater and they were able to fix both of them really quick.

We needed to see the ducts on the roof. We had three providers come in and had a look at the issue, Flow Right Plumbing being the third. The contractors reported back to American Home Shield and they never came back because they said they were not the right company to solve the issue. It was an inconvenience because I work but I needed to stay home waiting for them. They took photos of one case and they sent them back to AHS. Then, another contractor came out and he said he didn't receive the photos and they were not the ones to fix that. They also didn't bring a ladder although we made it specific that this is an AC unit that is on the roof.
We clean the ducts in the house and when they found more upstairs in the system, they said we had to seal the ducts in the AC unit in the roof so the water doesn't leak. They needed a special material to seal it and it was a very simple task. The company said they had nothing to do with this. But this is a plumbing company, maybe the plumbing know the ducts. The issue has been going on for two months now and the problem is that if it rains, more water comes into the system. I'm dissatisfied at this point with this issue. AHS has been great with other issues and we were very happy with the other services. But on this particular one, something is not working either with their contractors or with the information system that AHS has to get feedback from them.

The policy had just come into effect and getting someone to come over was smooth and easy to arrange. AHS sent 95 Garage Door, Incorporated and they were good. I noticed a leak twice before but it was intermittent, so I thought it was spilling over from the sink and didn't really paid attention to it. And then I realized it was coming from the dishwasher. That's when we called American Home Shield. However, there was no place on the site where I could put in what the issue was. I only had so many things that I could check. I got the plumber out and he was here for two minutes. He could tell right away that it wasn't a plumbing issue and told me I needed to get an appliance person out. So AHS called the appliance guy out and I got billed $75 twice for the same problem which I didn't think was fair. The appliance guy then said I either need a new dishwasher or they need to fix the motor because it's cracked. And it was leaking because of another issue. But I'm still waiting to hear back to see what they're gonna do about this problem. Nevertheless, the people have been great and the experience with AHS has been fine.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield is my ice maker. I submitted the claim online then the technician came about two days. It was a Friday, so they came out on a Tuesday. A company locally came out and tried to fix it. Ordered the parts and stuff, but still couldn’t get it fixed. They thought they knew what it was the first time they came out, and they fixed it. They came out and it was fixed for three days. It stopped working again, so the guy came back out and he had to order all these parts and he said it’ll be after a week. Then the parts came in, he brought the parts out and still it doesn’t work. So he was like, “Hey, American Home Shield will get in touch with you. Then they’ll tell you what you got to do.” I was like, “All right.”
Then the refrigerator that they delivered was not the match for what we had spoken about. It met the dimensions but the features did not meet the same qualifications there. Not the same features that the other refrigerator had. The refrigerators are going to come different and I understand that. However, there’s a lot of things that went missing - features that we had with the other refrigerator, even though that was an older model.
And another big one was the space inside of the refrigerator. It meets the dimensions on the outside as far as the box itself, however inside of the refrigerator, the compartments, don’t even come close to what we had with the last time. Needless to say, you lose space based on the space that was already there prior to as far as shelf space. It looks like our shelves are minimal to what they were. It’s compact, smaller inside by far. When I talked to the original lady we talked over the actual dimensions, ‘cause the guy that came here has those actual dimensions, but that’s the box itself. I’m very dissatisfied.
Good morning William,

I called American Home Shield’s number and told them that we needed an AC person to come out and check to make sure that the AC wasn’t broken or what needs to be done. So, I paid the $100 and they came out. They said that the whole unit needs to be replaced but unfortunately there’s no one main component that is broken to the point that it’s not working. The cold flow is right at the level and it makes a lot of noise but it’s not broken. They said that if one section of the unit breaks, then the warranty will cover whatever part broke. But it definitely needs to be cleaned which they gave us a quote for and then they also said we can keep putting the Band-Aid on the issue. If one thing breaks, call AHS. One other thing breaks, call AHS. And eventually in 10 years, we’ll probably have a new unit but he cannot guarantee that it will break in a week or five years from now.
We have an old unit and if we went to buy a new one, the warranty company would give us a discount so they don’t have to keep coming out and piecing it together. If the new unit costs $20,000 and we buy one, they can get us a $1,200 discount from AHS. So we’re helping them and they’ll help me. It’s starting to get hot here in Texas and it’s supposed to be up in the 90s. Right now, it’s doable but we’re just waiting. The experience with AHS has been good so far and I would tell people that I like them.

They gave me the name of the company that they were sending. The contractor called me, then he came and checked my AC. But he didn’t really fix it because he said that it had a slow leak in the line and he couldn’t find the leak. So, he just put Freon in there and I paid him for the Freon, then he left. The performance of my AC since the repair has been perfect and it's cool in the house. It's a large house and I can't stand the heat. I have to keep the house so cold and I have to be cool.

I submitted a claim with AHS for my refrigerator. The contractor called me the next day and they got out to my place three days afterwards. The guy came in, got right to business and was very professional. A week after he fixed it, we had the same problem again. They sent someone back out a second time who said that they had to order the part that was replaced plus additional parts. Once the parts came in, the original guy came back and he said that the parts he put in had burned out. He put two new parts in and told my daughter-in-law to give it about two hours and turn it on. She did and the whole room filled with smoke. It went from bad to worse. But it had nothing to do with the service quality because the refrigerator was old.
Right now, the refrigerator is sitting in our garage. They’re more than likely not gonna be able to repair it. They sent me an email a couple of days ago saying that a different refrigerator company would contact me. They wanted a second opinion on the refrigerator and no one’s contacted me yet. In addition, when I put in the service call with AHS, I set it up to pay it when the service was performed, but after the contractor contacted me, the decision was made not to proceed with the actual appointment. AHS came back and took the deductible out of my account. I had to contact them to get the deductible put back into my account.

The first tech that came out from A+ Appliance on 03/14/2018, did not know anything about microwaves. He called his supervisor, and he diagnosed the problem as the fuse by FaceTime on the phone (big mistake). Took 3 weeks for the fuse to come, and the tech came back, and with the supervisor on FaceTime (poor professionalism), the fuse only brought power, but no functionality of the microwave. Said they have to get another part. Has to be ordered again. Since then, I have been waiting for the AHS and the A+ Appliance to come out with the second part, and fix my microwave.
I have made several calls, and the AHS customer service staff are very rude, and covering up for AHS, always making excuses. In the meanwhile, my contract expired on 04/22/2018. I refuse to renew my contract, as my experience was anything but good. I paid $552 for a year, with a $100 deductible, and the microwave was the only thing that I claimed. First words out of the HVAC person sent was "it's cheaper for you and easier for me to just purchase a new HVAC". So when he submitted his cost to AHS he needs to Jerry Rig and modify my ductwork for $2600 out of pocket. I called the maker of the unit and they have the OE parts so no Jerry Rig ductwork would be needed. When talking with AHS they said they stand behind their HVAC guy even though it would cost me $2600. I asked for an authorized repair tech and was told they will give buy out price instead. So they hire and stand behind companies that price the work not covered by them so high it makes it cheaper to take the payout. All their contractor wants is to sell NEW SYSTEMS that only cost $4000. This smells like rotting fish to me and they don't care. Every other claim with them has been good and NO OTHER HVAC company sent ever tried this CRAP.

Then starting January I stopped using my air conditioning unit since it’s winter and I have a portable heater. Then come this summer I decided to switch it on again, and guess what? So AHS called me shouldering me to pay $1200. Then they gave me an option for me to look for other technician but they will only give $800! I've been paying almost $500 for my insurance. Second contractor diagnosed my issue and flat out told me directly that it would be the next 48 hrs before he could even reach back out to AHS because he had other service calls to complete. I have had an outstanding issue regarding my HVAC. In March, my HVAC was not working properly. AHS sent a technician who said the unit was old and doing the best it could. The next week the unit failed and I contacted AHS. I also got an estimate for a new unit. AHS representative instructed me to send the estimate for a reimbursement to their reviews department. March 26, I got a denial letter. It's been appealed to the State of VA Insurance Commission and AHS. I have also sent Steve Hochhauser, Acting CEO communications. Still no resolution. Stay clear of this company. Their marketing campaign should be, "We hide behind the shield", not "You're protecting by the shield".
Hello, Linda. I apologize that you were given some information that was not correct. I see that we have reached a decision on reimbursement through our account executive department. I will be in contact to confirm the information that I see in our system.

He said that the temperature vacillated and went off a little bit, but the oven was going to be fine. I still use the oven, but we're not sure it is fine, so we're considering having it tested again because the temperature seems to be jumping quite a bit. For an expensive double-oven, the temperature should be a little more true to what we set. The oven's temperature being off is not a problem if I cook because I've been cooking long enough that I just adapt to that. But it's a problem and an inconvenience if I bake because if I set the oven to 400, it preheats to 400, then when I go and look, the temperature is 430 or 440.

American Home Shield was Johnny on the spot to fix it and the customers were happy.
AHS' reps are always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. But I got frustrated about my 4-year-old refrigerator because it hadn’t been making ice at all. The service company has been working hard to make it right and has been out there multiple times changing out parts to no avail. It's making ice intermittently which is a step up but I still have problems with it and we've given them plenty of time. They’ve ordered a heat coil since that was the only part that the service guy could think of that hasn’t been replaced. But I got renters in that house who are paying good rent money and they haven’t had ice working properly since they moved in in February. I just moved out of that house a year ago after living in it for 22 years, and everything was fine. But then the stove won't heat up too. American Home Shield offered to replace it which I accepted. I feel bad about having to replace the refrigerator too, but this just can't go on.
So far, AHS has been reasonable and exceptionally good but I’ve read some of the comments about them lately and it looked like they went through a rough period of time with people dissatisfied with them. But now people are coming back and saying that they’ve gotten their jinx worked out and AHS has been doing fine now.

About three weeks ago I noticed that there was a brown spot in the ceiling when I walk out of the front door so I started to investigate. I went upstairs and above that spot is the toilet. I went closer and I could see that there was water that was dripping from the tank. The tank had a hairline crack so I shut the water off and looked at my contract for American Home Shield. I saw that it covered the toilet. It doesn’t say that it has to be normal and that they're not going to cover if it's cracked, and that they're not going to replace it. If the items are not working, like broken flush where water is leaking it’ll be replaced. So I went to all of my bathrooms at that point because I was thinking if one was doing this, there could possibly be another.
None of them was leaking but there was a crack in the tank in the master bathroom. If you look behind it there's traces of the quarry or the tank dye from the toilet cleaner that I had put in. So I was like okay, let me call and get this taken care of. So I called and placed in a ticket. I informed the lady that the tank have a crack. I read through my policy but I wanted to ensure before I have the guy come out there because it's a $100 call. I didn’t wanna waste the money.
The lady said they cover it and they'll send somebody out there. She sent the guy out there and the guy spent 30 seconds. He looked at it and said, "American Home Shield is not gonna approve that." And I was like what? And that was $100. I was a little irate because to me that was just uncalled for. If they weren't gonna cover it, she should have told me before because I would have just said, “You know what, that’s not a problem. I will go ahead and take care of it myself.” But that was not what she informed me. She informed me that they would.
Then the contractor tried to sell me their product which is $327 per toilet. I was like, "Are you crazy?" Now I felt like I'm kind of being hassled. So I called American Home Shield. I called the supervisor to the first contractor that comes out. He apologized and said, “Hey, you know what, I'm gonna send another guy out. We'll look at it. We'll try to get this resolved.” So I was like “Okay, great.”
So the guy that comes out is the supervisor and he told me it's a crack in the tank and American Home Shield doesn’t cover that. Then I pulled up my contract and I have him read it. It doesn’t state any such thing. So I was standing there completely frustrated and I was like, "Okay. You know what, I don’t need another opinion." I know that I can do that within the contract.
When I asked for another person to come out, Kevin, supervisor of the claims called me and I called him back. I explained to him what I was experiencing. I also told him about the policy and that I had the house built brand new so I'm the only occupant in it. It's been erected for 10 years now. The guy explained to me the reasoning behind the crack. What he said that occurred was when you use the toilet and sit back on it there could be a stretch from using the toilet and people leaning back on it over a 10-year period. So I'm like okay, that’s all day normal wear and tear.
After that happened the guy told me that they would authorize the second opinion thing. Once I found out who the company was, I called them before they came out. I explained to them what the scenario was. I told them exactly that each tank had hairline crack in it. The crack is not huge. They're just is not bigger than a strand of hair but it's leaking and automatically he tells me American Home Shield is not gonna cover that. I told them they don't have to come out because if they come out then they're gonna charge me $100. So that's $200 to get an issue resolved and it still hasn’t been resolved. So I said no. I'm very dissatisfied.
Hello, Prentice. I apologize that your issue was not covered by the warranty. The second opinion company that was dispatched would not have been owed a service fee. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you directly to discuss your service request.

We just moved in so we got the door locks replaced. Everything was great and the locks are so far, so good. I know that AHS had come out before we moved in and checked out the furnace and certified it as good even though two people before had said it wasn’t so it seems to be working now but I guess we'll see what the future holds with that.

Two of the heaters are not working and it was not the first time that somebody went to see and check the problem. They thought that it was a gas furnace and it was not. Those are electric heaters. They're removable from the wall and all you have to do is take two screws out, bring 'em out, disconnect it, connect the other one, put them back in, put the two screws in and it's done. There’s really no rocket sign in it. We received the message just a week ago that the heaters are on order and that the job hasn’t been completed because they haven't come in yet. And this was after a couple of weeks that the technician was there. It keeps getting delayed. If this was the middle of winter, the guys will be suffering. The house will be cold.
My wife put the claim in. I told her what was wrong and she made the phone calls. But there hasn't been enough communication between the American Home Shield, the contractor and us. I wish there was more communication. American Home Shield has made the arrangements. But they haven't kept up with the contractors in order for the contractors to make sure that the job is done in a more efficient way. And that was where they failed. So American Home Shield's just a service but it's all based on who they hire to get the job done. And so far, the contractor hasn't been fast and hasn't communicated enough. So, here we are, still waiting and it has already been one or two months since we began all this process. It was a bad experience.
Hello, Bernardo. I apologize for the delays in getting your issue resolved. If there are parts delay, we, unfortunately, have no control over that. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns.

I filed a claim with AHS and it was real prompt and simple. This was regarding the AC which was leaking through the overflow pipes. The technician was very knowledgeable. They didn't find the parts when they came. So they came back four days later and they fixed the problem. All is good now and I'd recommend AHS.

I filed a claim online to American Home Shield for my dryer and the process was very easy. Their website was awesome and very user-friendly. The contractor came out on Friday but the dryer still wasn't fixed because they had to order a part. The part was ordered Friday and that's what we're waiting on. He said it should take a couple of days to get it in. We have a five year old running around and this repair has horribly affected our operations at home. But usually, the issues are handled right then and there whatever they are. I've had a couple of claims before and the quality of work has been great. It went through smoothly and I haven’t met any bad contractors as of yet. American Home Shield is the best thing. I had it once before and I ended up losing my job so I ended up letting it go. It was the worst mistake ever. Recently I just got it back and I’ll never get rid of it again.

We had a garbage disposal that went out. I called American Home Shield and they responded within 24 hours. The contractor who came was extremely nice and mannerly. Also, I couldn’t believe that he drove so far. He has a large area and there wasn’t someone closer. But he came and he was here when he said he would be. He was very courteous and explained to me that I should be a little more careful about what I put down the garbage disposal. He was in and out of the house in about less than an hour. He took the old garbage disposal out and took it with him and put the new one in and cleaned up the water around it and told me, “Not a problem.” It couldn’t have been a better experience.
I had been with Old Republic, which was absolutely an awesome company. I’ve been with them for about six years but we had had several claims and so they said they would no longer cover it. On the other hand, I've had American Home Shield for about a year and it’s been fine. However, we’re 80 years old and I would rather pick up the phone and call than get on the computer and try to file a claim. But getting through is awful and it is not easy sometimes. Other than that, I will probably renew with them.

I called AHS to file a claim for my washer that wasn't spinning and the rep was really good and took care of everything. Usually I had to wait four days for someone to come out, but this time the contractor came the next day. He had to order a part and when he had it, he called us. However, we weren't home that time so we had to wait the following week. He repaired the washer and no issues since then. AHS took care of me and they always have. It's really good. Right now, I had to cancel it because we sold our house. We're waiting to build our new one and we're gonna get it again.

My garbage disposal finally broke. It kept going out on me but I would fix it myself. My boyfriend’s handy and he would take an Allen wrench and tie it into something. But he couldn’t fix it and he said he was finally done so I called American Home Shield. The interaction with American Home Shield reps was simple and easy. They were friendly as well. They told me that one of the persons from the contractor company would give me a call within 24 to 48 hours to schedule a time that would be convenient for me.
The tech called me, scheduled the time and he came during the given time frame. He confirmed it was the motor. He told me that the one that was installed in my kitchen was a commercial one, which was strange. He said he can replace what was in there with a commercial one as well but it would take a few weeks for him to get that. He has another type of motor with him which is the one that should be installed in my kitchen. I told him that as long as it’s gonna do the work then it's okay. He fixed and installed it the same day within 20 minutes.

I absolutely love American Home Shield. I'm a single woman and I don’t know how to fix stuff, and they just take the worry away from me. I've had a great experience every time I've used them. The first time I've had something done was when I had a major leak under my bathtub and they fixed it in a timely manner. They have fixed my old refrigerator before a couple of times too. Then, I recently got a new air conditioner through them. I chose to upgrade and paid the difference to get a better air conditioner. However, the unit just never seemed to cool. So, being it under warranty, a repair guy came, looked at it, and put Freon in it. But in a few weeks, it wasn’t any better. He came out again, put Freon in it and told me that he thinks my Freon line in the wall on my house has a leak in it.
Winter came and I didn’t do anything about it. When summer started, the air conditioner just wouldn’t cool my house at all. So this time, I just got American Home Shield. The guy came out here and within five minutes, he found my problem and my house is so cool. The problem was not in my wall. There was a leak in the house in the unit and he just had to tighten something in there where the Freon was leaking out. He just reached up and said there was oil, which meant that there was Freon leak. He also explained to me that it was 700 pounds of pressure going through there. The guy was so trained and absolutely knew what he was doing. He told me that he's been doing this for about 20 years now. With all these, I recommended American Home Shield to other people. Recently, I told a gentleman that I have them and he said that I'm so smart to use something like it. I also told him that they came out here for $75 and they fixed the problem.

Our garbage disposal was completely broken so we filed a claim with American Home Shield. It was pretty easy. I went to the website, made an account and filed a claim based of the description of what it was, which was under plumbing, and then I just selected garbage disposal. We have dealt with two contractors. The first one was not good at all. He called me to schedule an appointment and said he was gonna call me back but he never did. I called like about five or six times. I called AHS back and told them what was going on. They said that they're gonna contact the contractor but I told them not even to worry about it because the guy was pretty rude. Even though the first contractor kind of fell through the floor and didn't perform, when I told American Home Shield about it, they were on it and they made sure that it was handled very quickly.
They had set me up with another contractor and that person was great. They called me same day and told me they were gonna call me back later that evening. They called me exactly when they said they were going to. They scheduled an appointment and they came on time. The guy who set up to do the work was very professional. He introduced himself and did everything very clean. He got in and out very quickly. I was satisfied with what they did. The disposal was working perfectly since the repair. I would let my friend know that American Home Shield covers a good range of the things in the home, whether it be appliances or general home equipment. It's fairly priced and the company is good to work with.

American Home Shield has always been good to us and it’s a good service. They’re always taking care of our claim. When the filters weren’t getting any water flow and the ice maker was not making ice, I made a claim online to American Home Shield. The representative set up the claim and sent me an email on who’s gonna come and fix the ice maker. When the guy came, he said that we don’t need two filters. We’ve had two filters on it for years so the guy took one out and since the ice maker was freezing up, not making ice and not putting any water in the tray, the guy poked the ice out that froze in the tube so the water would come out. Then he put everything back in. It was good and the ice maker isn’t making as much ice as it should. But the ice maker is not making ice again. It's still freezing up and I am fixing to call AHS.

In November, I had an issue with my heating system. I submitted a claim on the phone with American Home Shield and I was put on hold for a great period of time. It took them a while to get in touch with me and one time when I called the customer service rep, we were disconnected and they apologized. They said it was because there were some forest fires in the country and it didn't make me feel too comfortable. I understand that there were emergencies going on in United States, but that didn’t make my situation any less relevant. So, their live customer service should be improved upon as far as when people call in. It also took a while for their contractor to get in touch with me. So, I was not too pleased with that experience. But since then, my experience with them has been pretty good.
Recently, my water heater expired and it was leaking in the basement. I submitted the claim online which was fairly easy to do and based upon the situation, I was trying to get that resolved as quickly as possible. But it took some time for the contractor to get in touch with me. However, they were awesome as far as working with the problem. They told me what I would need to have done, what my coverage covered, and what I would have to come out of pocket on. They seemed very knowledgeable and it didn’t take too long for them to get me back on track. I found out about the problem on Friday and I got my hot water back on Tuesday. So far, it seems that it is taking some time for the water to heat up, but I have an old house. Other than that, for the price, my American Home Shield warranty has very good coverage.

American Home Shield's claims process has always been smooth especially with the online. I recently filed a heating claim because the thermostat wouldn’t turn on, but sometimes it would. AHS sent someone right away to fix the issue and the contractor said they needed a new part. They fixed it once and they told us to call if it continued to have a problem. The second time they sent out someone took a little longer because there were conflicts with the tenant’s schedule. Nonetheless, they fixed it and I haven't heard back from the tenant so I'm assuming that the problem was corrected. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had a plumbing problem so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was easy. However, nobody made any phone calls to me to schedule the person they assigned. So I had to call AHS and I got a really nice gentleman that went through about six people on their list that were no longer taking jobs. He then assigned me to one contractor but they never called me. Again, I had to call back and they finally gave me to Central Valley Plumbing. They were great. They sent me an email right away and let me know they would call. I got a call from them and told me the the soonest day they could get out. They did come when they said they would and they did a great job. It took a week before somebody came out, which was horrible, because I couldn’t wash any dishes. The problem was the kitchen sink so I didn’t wanna use the dishwasher because it’s all connected. It was inconvenient. But once it got taken care of it was okay.
The previous experience to this one was an outside plumbing issue that I wasn’t sure where it was. They sent the people out but it was raining. So the guy said “I can’t do anything today. I have to come back. We have to reschedule.” About a week passed, I told AHS to find out when we’re gonna reschedule it. And so, we rescheduled. They sent out this person and he didn’t climb under the house. He said “Oh, it's an outside faucet. It’s not covered.” When I said “Well, when this was happening we couldn’t find where it was leaking. It’s gotta be under the house which is covered.” He then said, “Of course you don’t see anything. Did you turn on the water?” He was rude so I said, “Get off my property. You’re useless.” I called back AHS and talked to them about what happened and they said “Well, we can send out somebody else but if they say it’s the same thing then you need to pay another $75.”
I don’t have a choice and the water leak needs to be fixed. I had the water run because I had turned it on not knowing what it went to. The water company came up and put a note on my door that I might have a water leak because my usage jumped up. And I thought “Okay, that’s the only thing I changed.” So, I turned it back off and the city confirmed that it stopped and the water went right back to my normal. I was calling because we walked around looking and we never found any leaks. When I called back they said that they’ll send out Central Valley. They came out and their employee turned it on. He did see some water but he couldn’t get all the way under the house at that time because it was raining and it was all wet. And he did see a big puddle in one area and said he would have to come back when they could get under there with the boss.
But I never heard back from American Home Shield and I’ve been in touch with Central Valley. Apparently, the owner has broken his hip so they’re waiting on him to come in. They will come back and I’m waiting on that but it just seems odd to me that AHS has not even followed up nor contacted me and this issue has been going on for a month now. But as long as my valve’s off and I’m not running water, I'm okay. Overall, AHS seem to be lacking on their follow up. And I don’t understand why they had so many contractors on their list but none of them were taking clients. AHS needs to do an update.

Having American Home Shield is a security because no matter what appliance issues you might have in the home you buy, you're probably gonna be able to get it fixed for the $75 fee. I'd tell others that having American Home Shield is a great idea. However, it's expensive because it costs you every month you're into it $600 to $700 a year. But if you have something major that goes wrong, and we've had several things happen since we bought this house, it's an affordable way to get something fixed.
Hi, Barbara. We agree, that the cost of the policy does even out. Especially if you have a major service issue that needs to be resolved.

American Home Shield sent someone out to take a look at my pool. I talked to AHS' representative and they said that they can have a second opinion come out and I said, "Okay, that's fine." I also asked them how much it was, but they said there wouldn't be a fee. I received a call to put in another thing and was told that there was a $100 fee. I wish AHS had been honest and told me at the beginning. They should've said that if the second person comes up with the same thing, there would be a fee. Then I would've immediately gave him the information of what I had done previously to take care of it. I had no knowledge that I was charged $100.
I never heard from nor seen the second contractor and the last contractor was horrible. I didn't like the one that AHS sent over to do the feedback. They never told me what time they'd come nor what the finding was. I don't recommend them. I called AHS and I was on for 26 minutes to be transferred to another department so that they can give me the result. I'm a business person, so I don't I don't have 30 minutes to sit home on the telephone. Moreover, no one picked back up and once the call had been at least transferred, the previous person had no control. It has its advantages and disadvantage, but my service with American Home Shield has been phenomenal and normally, I'm very pleased with them. The customer service has been improved. I've really thought about leaving because of the call-in time, you'd be on hold for a whole hour. That has changed.
Hi, Kennice. The hold time is an issue that I am glad to hear is being resolved. Our apologies that you were not fully advised about the 2nd opinion service fee that is due, pending the outcome. American Home Shield representatives have always been great but we have not had a good experience with the people that they send out to our home. They couldn’t help us because their contractor was the problem.
But the contractor for the AC repair was fantastic, very professional, knowledgeable, prompt, and carried the parts on his truck which was not our experience in the past. Usually, it’s several days to order parts and several days for them to come back so this was an excellent experience. Depending on the age of your home, the warranty is definitely worth it. I'm not that impressed with American Home Shield. I had an issue with my furnace where I needed the gas pilot A/C switch. It was probably over 20 years old and it's the original furnace when I purchased the home. The contractor came out and he told me that I would need a new furnace because my furnace was really, really old. He said, "Well, I don’t think they'll fix this. You might have to pay something but it shouldn't be more than like a couple of hundred. But I don’t really know, they'll let you know." When AHS called me, they told me it was $1,050. I said, "Well, I thought if there was an issue, you'll repair it."
The AHS rep then said, "Well, we'll repair the furnace but the parts, you'll have to pay for." That defeats the purpose of having this service because over the weekend I had called a company called Reliable and they came out and they said to replace the whole thing would be approximately $1,500 so where are my savings? At this point, I'm really contemplating whether the service is going to be beneficial to me considering that I paid for it for my son and myself. In fact, my son had a repair done early part of this year or late last year. AC cools you so he hasn’t turned on his air-conditioning. But when he went on to turn it on a few days ago, what they repaired is not working.
Atlanta Gas Light replaced the meters on the whole street. And in doing so, they had to turn off all the gas. Once they completed, they turn it back on. When the guy came in to turn it back on, when he went to light it, even though it was off, it was still showing that it was spinning its hands. So he said, he wouldn't turn it back on because there looked to be a safety valve issue. When AHS sent the guy out, the guy who came out said he didn’t see a safety valve issue. Well, this is Atlanta Gas Light, I don’t see why he would say there was if there wasn’t and so, the guy said about replacing the furnace.
I got the service because I was told it was a great service and it helps save you money but what I'm seeing is slipshod work and dishonest advertising as far as what AHS does and doesn’t do. This is my second time using their service. My first experience was a few weeks ago when my washer stopped working. I called on a Wednesday or a Thursday and the person I was speaking with said, "Okay, usually you'll hear something within 24 to 48 hours from the repair contractor." I asked if they work on the weekends and she assured me they do have some that work on weekends and I said, "Okay, that's cool. My first time using the service so I'm finally getting a benefit out of it." But I didn’t hear anything from them. That Saturday, I called them and I said, "I haven't heard anything from anyone. What's going on?" And then that's when they said, "Oh no, they don’t work on weekends. They only work Mondays to Fridays from 9 to 5."
I had someone sit in there with me and I called her and said, "Hey, maybe I'm confused. I'm sure they told me that they worked on weekends." Now, I've got clothes that are sitting in a tub of water in the washing machine. And so, she was like, "No, they did say that. They worked weekends." I had to call to find out if my part ever came in, what's going on and what happened, because no one called me to inform me anything and that's when they said, "Oh, we're waiting on your part." And then they called to tell me the part came in.
The next day, they told me I wouldn't have a time frame. I had to stay open from 9 to 5 because the person could come there at anytime. But I work and I can't take a whole day off of work just to sit at home not knowing what time this guy is coming in. I, at least, need a time frame. And she said, "Well, you need to call the contractor directly tomorrow and maybe they can tell you but we can't. We have to keep it open from 9 to 5." I said, "That's ridiculous because you're requiring me to be home and take off for him to come and then require me to take off and be home again for him to do the repairs. That will be two days I'm taking off with an undetermined time of when he'll be here which is not fair to me."
She said, "Well, that's all I can tell you. You're going to have to call them because we have no control over that." So, both times I've had to use the service, I didn’t feel it was in my best interest. I've had the service for not even quite a year, this is my first two times using the service and neither was really a pleasant experience for me. And that's why at this point, I had Reliable come out Saturday to look at my furnace.
Laketa,
I understand your concerns about the repairs that need to be completed and the noncovered associated with the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

But that was resolved and the contractor did a good job. He also explained what he was doing.
The other service call I had was for a plumbing issue and that was a little more complicated. American Home Shield subcontracted someone to come out and fix a faucet leak I was having. The first contractor came out and looked at it. He didn't have any tools, so he said he'd have to come back. But, he never came back. I waited two weeks and nobody called. Then, the drywall people came out and said, "We heard that we have to patch a hole that was made by the plumber." I told them that the plumber never made a hole because he never came out. So then they said that they would contact the plumber to let him know.
I waited another couple of weeks but never heard anything, so I eventually called American Home Shield back and told them that no one had come out yet. They were very sorry. They sent someone else out and this time, the contractor was very good. He came out, looked at it, and identified the problem. But, he didn't have the tools with him to do the job. He said he would have to get another piece to replace the part that was needed and then come back out. That's my only complaint with American Home Shield. They take the time off to meet the folks to come out, and they always have to come out twice. So, that was twice that we had to schedule to be at home to get that one repair done. I just wish the people who were contracted were prepared to fix the job the first time they come out.

The water pressure wasn’t resolved with anything we could do at home so we filed the claim with AHS to see what the problem was and resolve it. I called it in and the filing process was very easy and took less than five minutes. Also, the rep I talked to was very pleasant and helpful. Then, the contractor called and came out the next morning. He was efficient and I was very happy with the service. However, their service fee is $75 while other warranty companies only charge $65. But they have really effective service and I'm happy with my warranty coverages.
Great Marquita! We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Thanks for choosing AHS. Have an amazing week.
