They sent a repairman out to my house checked my a/c. He said I have a leak in the evap coil, air handler needs to be replaced. American Home Shield denied claim, said it could be an old leak. This company is a RIPOFF.

I haven't had to call anyone for service so far, but I hope it's better than the Billing Dept. Every month I get an email stating that my payment method has failed!

Every month I call and speak to someone to try and correct the billing error (wrong expiration date for C Card). Every month I am told the problem has been corrected. The next month, same thing all over again. This month after I called about the failed payment, they told me the issue had been fixed. The next day my credit card was charged for the monthly amount twice within 1 minute.

When I called about this, the person I talked to told me it would take 3-4 weeks for my refund to get to my bank!!! They can charge my card twice in 1 minute, but it will take 3-4 weeks to give me a refund, that's BS. Also you can never talk to the same person twice, even when you ask for the person you just spoke with, they can't do that either. And they won't email you back either. They will send you an email when you owe them $$$, but they won't send an email when you pay on the account, so the customer has to call the billing dept for payment confirmation, which won't answer the phone at all or only after you've been on hold for 20-30 min. The sales people always answer the phone and are very polite and try to help do what they can. I would cancel my contract, but I've heard that AHS is the best compared to the other companies selling Home warranty contracts.

My fridge went bad so I called for a repair. The repair person came promptly but AHS denied the claim citing the fridge was not in the kitchen. As much as such wording exists in their contract I fail to see why would they put such restrictions on the coverage. Upon consulting with their customer support who asked me to move the fridge to the kitchen and submit another claim... I did just that. The repair guy (from a different company this time) came and said the fridge is unfixable. I got a call from AHS saying they are denying the claim again.

Even though the fridge was in the kitchen this time, they claimed its the same issue. I've to coverage so I could get my appliances fixed and I find both of these reasons flimsy. Most appalling is the fact that I was told to file a new claim only to get it denied again. Each time I've to pay $75 so why was I pushed into paying the second $75 when they knew they will deny it again!!! They should either fix my fridge or pay for the replacement as this is what a home warranty is supposed to do.

I requested services on my air conditioner on April 25, 2018. To date, my family and I have suffered in 90+ degree temperatures because AHS (a company that claims "when covered items break down, AHS can help"). Does it take 30 days to get a "covered item" fixed? No matter how many times I call, I have to hold 30-45 minutes before speaking to an individual then lied to about the services. The ONLY call I received from AHS was on May 14, 2018 and that was to inform me that the total amount owed by me "not covered" is $400. This company is the worst when it comes to customer service and are not true to their brand. I DO NOT recommend anyone to do business with AHS.

Updated on 06/12/2018: This is an update to my experience with American Home Shield Warranty (AHS). My family and I suffered 7 WEEKS in the Texas heat without air conditioning. From April 25, 2018 to June 7, 2018 we were without air conditioning due to the negligence of AHS and DFW HVAC AND PLUMBING LLC (Richardson, TX) Customer Service Team. My service request was NOT a priority for either business. After placing several phone calls to both businesses regarding the delays, the customer service teams continued to blame the other, all the while my family and I continued to suffer in the heat. Scheduled service request were not only delayed, but canceled for "different" reasons by both businesses.

Finally after 7 weeks, we got an air conditioner. We were approved to purchase a window unit on 5/21 and then again on 5/23, promising reimbursement up to $125. Although we were grateful for that offer, our electric bill is $200 more than normal because of the window units. I have canceled my contract with AHS and DO NOT recommend anyone do business with either business.

My husband filed a claim at American Home Shield because the toilets were gurgling and when we would flush, it would come back up. Usually, the septic tank alarm goes off and lets us know that it has reached its point where it needs to be emptied but it didn't. It turned out a piece was broken. We weren't sure how long it would take for someone to contact us so I called AHS to make it more urgent because my husband had an event for his work at our home. We couldn't have guests with my toilet overflowing. So I told AHS the day of the event and that we needed to get the repair done ASAP. It was morning when I called and by evening, AHS called us back and told us that they had someone in the area to come and check the issue out.

The contractor they sent was great, helpful and patient. They explained everything and let us know that there was a piece that was missing and that they would have to come back since they didn't have it with them. The next day, I had to call and remind them that it was urgent and that we needed someone right away. But since the repair, we haven't had any issues with the toilets.

I communicated with the contractor who came out and it was pretty upfront and straightforward. He was also very good. Everything’s been functioning really good so far.

I've been with American Home Shield for about six months and when my AC fan stopped working, the process in submitting a claim was quite easy. I called them up and in a couple of days, they had somebody out here. But I wish they were a little bit quicker in getting somebody. When the air conditioner is out in Florida, it’s drastic. That aside, the representatives were very pleasant. I had a question or two and they got back to me fairly quick. The technician was a good worker too. He seemed to know what he was doing and he did the repair the same day. After that, we found out we had other problems. The Freon was leaking out and we decided to stop and just replace the whole unit. American Home Shield helped pay off what they were willing to pay, but I decided to get it done and it was pretty much out of pocket.

My older refrigerator died a month and a half ago. Allstate Appliance, the contractor AHS sent, was very excellent and I was very pleased with them. They’ve worked on our appliances before so we’ve tried to use them again. The refrigerator was un-repairable though, so the repair person recommended to get another one. We got to look at other refrigerators and my husband picked one out. It was a bit hard with the people that delivered it because at first, they didn’t wanna take my old one, but we asked as far as one was delivered, one would be picked up. Nevertheless, the new unit is working well.

Our house is only a little over a year old but I started hearing problems with refrigerators and air conditioners. We live in Florida now so a lot of things aren’t made as well as they used to be because of all of the computer components. I’ve heard the air conditioners don’t last as long here as they would up north so we opt to go ahead and put a warranty on our house. I was a licensed realtor in Ohio from ’84 to 2005 and when I moved to Texas, I was licensed there for five years. As a realtor, I’m very familiar with American Home Shield.

I used American Home Shield for a lot of issues over one company I was with that had their own home protection. They didn’t like it but I was an independent contractor. I really like American Home Shield and I never had any problems. When a water line on our refrigerator wasn’t releasing any water, I called them to submit a claim. The interaction I had with their claims rep was excellent. The technician that came out put a small heater on it and it's working great now.

We bought the stuff and had the guy come out and then they reimbursed us for it. The contractor from Alexander & Sons Plumbing was excellent. He was very good in coming out and assessing the problem, and he got it taken care of. Everything about the experience was fine. Also, within this year our washing machine leaked and our garage door was broken twice. American Home Shield stood behind everything and everything was taken care of. I've already told our neighbors about them.

They contacted American Home Shield and replaced it. I had called ahead of time to American Home Shield to get the name of who they use because we live in Arizona and it's really important that the problem is fixed quickly. I filed an AC claim with American Home Shield and my experience was great. I put the claim in, they got back to me on the same day, and they had me set up with a person to have to call that day. That was quick. And the contractor responded right away as well. It took them a few days to come out but that was okay because it was Friday and near a weekend when I had called in. So, Monday was fine. The guys came out in a timely manner. And I live in a hot place, so they took care of the problem immediately.

After they checked the AC, they had to order the compressor. So, the repair was delayed another day but they were there early in the morning putting the compressor in. They were fast and they were in and out. I was shocked! In about an hour, they had the AC up and running. From start to finish, the service was amazing. It's been a pleasure doing business with American Home Shield. The people whom they're dealing with right now, or at least the ones I had, are really good. I recommended American Home Shield to two different friends at work already. My friends who are homeowners had them for over 35 years and another friend of mine, for 30 years. American Home Shield was terrific and efficient and they did what they said. Anybody else who says they don't believe these guys do a timely job are crazy.

My water heater was not working and this was my second call with American Home Shield for the same problem. But their agent was concise and to the point. She was professional and pleasant at the same time. The contractor that AHS sent had a trainee with him and handled all of that very well. The trainee paid very good attention to what was going on and at times, did some of the work on it which was pretty cool. Also, I wanted to know what the technician was doing and he shared that information. I was very satisfied with him.

But the technician had to call American Home Shield for a part, which was an unusual part and proprietary. I then had to reschedule him to come back. When that new part was made, he came back and that part was not the correct part. So, we had to order the part directly from the manufacturer which took a while to get as well. Then I had to schedule the appointment and finally, the water heater worked without any problem. It was very frustrating as it took about three weeks for it to be done and I had to go over to my mom’s house, so it was not pleasant. When it becomes more expensive to repair something, AHS doesn’t replace it until it finally breaks. But American Home Shield was very quick to respond and in this case, they sent out a qualified person who knew what he was doing.

There was water coming through the wall in at least two separate incidents, but they were the same thing. I tried to put sheetrocks there and every time I would put it, it would get wet. American Home Shield sent ASAP Plumbing out and the first time they came, I was told it was one bathroom. Apparently, it wasn’t because the water was still coming through the wall a week later. Then they came for the second time and I did not have a good experience.

There were two plumbers who walked in. The first plumber, from the second he got to the door, did not want to be here. He did not do plumbing. It was towards the end of the day, so I don’t know if he had something planned. When he got in here, he tried to say it was a separate issue in that bathroom. I told him that it was not and it was coming out from the same place. I told him that I can show it to him because I showed it to the other plumbers. He disagreed because he said the previous plumber fixed the other bathroom. I told him that they are the plumbers and they were the ones that said it was that bathroom, so he went in there.

The other plumber with him was outside and when I went in, he thought it was the other plumber behind him. He said that he broke the line, but I didn’t know what that meant. He went back to the plumbing and said that he had to call American Home Shield because he didn’t think it was covered. Then I looked at where he said there was a leak at first, and what used to be a little tiny drip was already gushing. Then I knew he broke it when he said "Oh, I broke the line". He went outside afterwards and there was a big leak. Then he went outside to the truck, came back in and said that American Home Shield says it was not covered because it was cosmetic plumbing and it was not anything they’re responsible for. It was the second time that I paid $75 to have them tell me it’s not covered.

ASAP Plumbing didn’t find the leak and so I paid for a new plumber to come in and fix it because there was no way I was giving them the job after they acted like that. And the new plumber fixed what they did at first. The drain part that attaches to the tub was old and the previous plumber kept yanking on it, trying to see if that was the leak, and pulled it out. What was down in the tub was broken so the new plumber fixed that. He also found another issue, which I paid up for on top. He thought it might have been the original leak so he replaced the whole shower. It was $900 because he had to weld and had to do everything. Now, I still have a leak but I gave up. It is never there except when it rains and it's not severe that we can’t live with it or figure out. When I looked up online, somehow it said that I have to seal around the house, so I’m working on that. But what I did was put a vent there so it’ll leak through the vent and we can control it.

I wasn’t too disappointed with American Home Shield because this is not my first experience with the home warranty, so I haven’t expected them to cover anything. Yet I had always paid for the home warranty. What I was very disappointed in was the plumber's attitude. There wasn't any assistance with him. I thought about calling his company and American Home Shield but I didn't. I just needed to deal with what I got.

They kept coming and putting freon in my AC. They charged me $95 per pound of freon and $137 service charge. I could have gotten it done for $50 but I paid $200 to AHS and I still got the problem. The contractor will be back out in about two weeks and it would cost me another $137. I pay all these money every year and every time I have an issue, it's about 400 bucks so I'm not impressed. That's messed up. Also, I added a pool last year and my pool people submitted all the paperwork to American Home Shield but I never heard back from them, so our pool is still not covered.

I submitted a plumbing claim to American Home Shield and they sent out a guy that was here for two hours. He said he got underneath the crawl space and then, he went out to his truck and called AHS. He came back and had the claim denied until I got the granite off the garden tub. He said it had to be taken off before he could adjust anything. It was a lot of money, work, and risk. I had to do my own research and call my granite guy that worked on another house who said it was ridiculous. I also had to call the people that put a door in my closet on the motor of the garden tub and the guy also said that was ridiculous.

I called AHS to get somebody out here on the weekend because I couldn't use the cold water. American Home Shield said that my claim was denied and that they would not be able to send anybody out here until I get the granite off. They argued with me and I was in dispute with that person for an hour. And she said there was no supervisor available. It was the weekend and too bad for me. I was mad and it was upsetting that I would have to pay for another $75 to get somebody to come out for a second opinion. The rep said she needed to get with a supervisor. I was sitting there for four or five days with the thing not working and a denied claim.

I waited the whole day on Monday and nobody called me back. On Monday afternoon, I called and got somebody different. They said, "Yes, this person was looking," and somebody would get back with me by end of day but nobody did. Then, I went through the same thing on Tuesday and on Wednesday, I said I was not paying a second one. I asked for somebody that has come out before when I had an air pressure issue that was making a noise. These plumbers seemed to be very knowledgeable and they were great. AHS didn’t send them and sent a different contractor.

A-Total came out and the guy tightened it and fixed it but it took him a while to analyze it and I had to go through the whole scenario. I'm sure he was on a time crunch so we didn’t totally test it out and he didn’t totally explain that if it goes all the way around, I would have to do the certain thing and then it's fixed. But he tightened it and it hasn’t slipped. Then, he had to come back a second time because the handle was spinning and he had to show me what to do if it slips again. But under absolutely no way does that granite need to come off that bathtub. I was thankful that I had him.

I had to talk it out of being denied and I had to get so angry with these people before they took me seriously. And their supervisors were not available and you never get the same person. I started calling in and hanging when I figured out a snot was answering the phone. I would hang up and call back until I got somebody that I thought was half-knowledgeable and would resolve it. I finally got a man who said that he would send out the plumber that I liked.

Also, that was a week and a half and it cost me time. I didn’t understand why I had to wait and I was getting the biggest runaround. I just wanted to throw my hands up and say, "Fine, I'll be without cold water on that note and I'll see you in court." I just thought, "Just write up something and submit it in." I was disputing and I didn’t want another $75 charge. I think they should credit me back the $75 for the first visit. The first person that came was deplorable. I hope AHS take him off their list. If they don’t, they're asking for big trouble. They called back to see if it was resolved but I don't think they were prompt.

I got a supervisor who I just kept ranting and raving about the first guy that came out. The first contractor said he was on vacation for two weeks the next day for spring break. So, it would be two weeks before he could come back out. And one of the supervisors noticed that and said, "Yes but we didn’t know that because they just sent in something that said don’t call us for two weeks." Evidently, he didn’t want to be there and he didn't seem to want to come back. He was just walking around the house. It was something that he couldn't get the handle or he didn’t have the tool and that was what I asked the second guy that came. The second guy said, "All it took was a Philips screwdriver to get that thing off."

On top of that, I had to go to Home Depot and I wanted to get the parts in case they needed something. I wanted it to match. If it's the cold water handle that they had to put another one in, I wanted it to match because the supervisor said they would just put whatever they have in onto the truck. I wanted to be proactive there and I was trying to help but they told me no. If one of them is broken, they're all interrelated so you're going to be hosed for the whole thing and the whole thing's gonna have to be replaced.

The plumber I had before for the air pressure did a great job. I was thrilled with him. And in that same time, I needed a plumber on the icemaker machine because it wasn't working. The guy they sent out got in there and he said that the waterline had not been hooked up. Then, two days later, the icemaker wasn't working again. I got set up with that and the icemaker wouldn't work but they cancelled three days in a row when it was flu season because their guy had the flu. So for three days, I cleared out my schedule for that one time frame. They should have sent it over to somebody else but I was trying to be a little patient.

Then about a month or two later, I called in that the water in the icemaker is not working again. This guy came out and he said, "This model has a lot of problems. You need to de-thaw it. It's frozen." It was a known problem with this thing and then he showed me how I could use a hair dryer to de-thaw it and then it would come out. Had the first guy gone into it a little bit more detail, I wouldn't have had to pay the next $75. I have passed that off but I was still annoyed because you're waiting four hours for them to show up. They never show up at the 1:00, it's always later. And that's the other thing, you get a 1:00 - 4:00 and if they get there 4:15, you sat around half the day waiting for them.

AHS needs to go through their vendor list and look at that. As a female, I just really resent it because I could just see people looking at me and that reading their minds, "They scammed you." I could have gotten scammed with the granite guy to come take it out. They're preying on innocent people. I wanted to go out on that company website but I don’t want to argue with these people. I'm just not going to renew the Home Shield and never use them again. I have reached out to my insurance agent who recommended them and spoke highly of them and I told her she's making a big mistake here because I'm angry. It was a lot of time and it was another person coming to the house. And I paid a hefty premium for that. I could have taken $500 or $600 balance and bought new appliances. But we went with the Home Shield and now I'm stuck on additional $300. It's just not worth it.

When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I did it online and it was easy. Somebody called the same day and came out the very next day. There was a leak in the stove and the contractor who came out was nice and thorough. He had to order a part then he came back two days later. Everything's been great since then and people should get AHS.

We’ve had some good deals with American Home Shield when we've had to have them. We had a service call to make sure the AC was working right. And whenever I submit a claim, it was an easy process. The contractors that were sent did well. They did what they were supposed to and they were very courteous about it. Then I had some problems with our sewer line. We had a plugged sewer and they got it cleaned over for us.

We had a problem with our refrigerator and it needed a motor because the freezer wouldn’t stay cool. I called to put in the claim and it was a very easy process. Then, the contractor who came was mild-mannered and very respectful. He replaced the fan and the unit is now working well. My experience with AHS has been wonderful and very professional.

The motor on our pool wasn't running from when I moved in and I didn't realize it. I just bought the house and when I had a pool guy come in, he turned it on and it was super loud. So he wouldn't even know it wasn't running. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and the experience with their website was good. I had a good interaction with the contractor they sent and the motor was fixed the same day.

The only thing was there was another part right by where the motor was fixed and it's leaking. I'm not a pool person, and I didn't know what was wrong. The contractor was here for that but the fact that it wasn't brought to my attention kind of bothered me. And I didn't like that. The pool guy brought it to my attention. So then when I called American Home Shield back, I told them why wouldn't they tell me if they saw another problem that was in the exact same area. And so they said, "Well, you can file another claim and this, this and that." But I already paid for somebody to come out. And I didn't really appreciate that. They were saying it might not be the same part but when I'm filing a claim that there's something wrong with how the pool is running, I would think that's a system and not just an individual piece.

The electrician came down and plugged the washer in the garage on the same circuit in the house that was in between the wall. It was so fast and he fixed it. Another time, I called them back for hot water. When we got the refrigerator and they put in the ice maker, and then it got crossed to something, we weren't able to get hot water. When we moved here, we had hot water, then all of a sudden, we didn't have. The contractor that came out couldn't get it and said that he had to run a whole new line, and I couldn't figure out why it had to be like that. But the contractor was nice and I'd recommend AHS. Everything we called them about, they've made an appointment and did it. The contractors also came on the time that they were supposed to.

My son had American Home Shield in South Carolina and he suggested AHS to me because I’m by my 70’s and I don’t know anything on what to do. The most recent claim I filed was when the washer was not washing the clothes properly. The water was there but would not turn the cycles. The process took a long time because it was given to Sears who came and looked at it. Then they said that we have to order some parts. However, the tech didn’t tell me that the parts will arrive at my place and that was a bit of a surprise. I don’t live there continuously because I lost my wife last year and my family said that I shouldn't live alone here. So I live either with my daughter or with my son.

The tech came again and my son was there. But my son was not much concerned about what’s happening. The tech said that the job was done and that it was fine so both of them left. But then, I came back and I tried to run a small load and it still was not spinning. I again called American Home Shield and they called the Sears people. Another person came and at that time, I was home. The previous tech did not notice that the bell in the machine wasn’t balanced but the second tech pointed it out. Then he said, “You have to help me lift it.” I said I could move it but not lift it. He asked for some gummy seals and we had some leftover from some work so I gave him that. He then put some wooden pieces which I only have to push with a rod.

Since then, the washer has been working well although it’s not being used occasionally, I go if I have something to do. But I tried to use it when I was there for about four days and my looked fine. Overall, my experience with AHS was wonderful. I had been with them for five years now and the only thing I would recommend is that they should give some more credit for senior people because it is $75 to $80 which looks quite high.

The tech was good but I had to help him in figuring out that the plug wasn’t working. He was launching into the plumbing stuff not working and I asked him about the plug and we figured out it was the electrical supply to the water heater. So, it went from a plumbing issue to an electrical one and I asked the plumber if both would be under the same charge and he told me that it would be. Then, the electrician came out and did his thing and I started to get these emails saying that I owed another $75. I chatted with American Home Shield and they told me that they would take the charge off but I kept getting the notes. I chatted with them again and they told me that it would take them 14 days. And now the emails seemed to have stopped.

I've been attempting to get my dishwasher fixed for two months now and it took me calling 4 times (and waiting on hold for 30+ mins each time) to finally get a work order placed even though I was told each time that one was put in. Because they took so long to put in a work order, the time elapsed to get it fixed and now I'm being told that I need to pay $75 again to issue a new work order. And somehow their "records" don't show that the work order didn't get placed in time.

I requested to speak to a manager and was just HUNG UP on. This is by far the worst customer service experience I've ever encountered. To top it off, I can't even issue a complaint about being hung up on because there's no outlet to do so. I could call but it's a huge waste of time to wait on hold and they refused to transfer me to a supervisor - which is probably their end goal. UGH. So frustrated.

Like any insurance company, AHS will have no problem collecting your premiums, but will fight you tooth and nail if something needs to be fixed. Our central air conditioner was not functioning. We were told there was a leak and we needed Freon. The technician fixed the leak, but AHS only covered $10/lb for Freon. The unit required 7 lbs and the cost to replace Freon was over $100/ lbs. As a result, it would cost (out of pocket) about $700 to get air conditioner functioning. That is actually more than the entire yearly AHS premium, so why bother even having a home “insurance policy.” AHS is a racket... like I said earlier, they will fight you to fix anything. Items covered, are not really covered. Read the fine print carefully.

The power outlet kept blowing a fuse. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor called me and said they'd be out within a week. They came out and fixed one outlet and told me the other outlet outside was not covered. I wasn't really happy with it and I had to pay for that outside outlet. And then, there was one outlet that kept blowing in the bathroom from an outside outlet. They fixed the surge protector or the GFI in the bathroom but it kept blowing. So, the contractor had to come back and I had him replace the outlet outside that was blowing the GFI.

I put one claim in a year and I've been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years now. I'm a bit upset because normally, whatever issue I have, the vendor would tell me that they would be out between the hours of 8:00 and noon or 11:00 and 5:00. So, I would have to take a day off work to wait for them to come out. And they show up, look at the item and say that they've got to come back because they never take information over the phone. And then I would have to take another day off work to sit at home and wait for them to come and replace or fix the item. It has always cost me two days work whenever there's a problem. So, I canceled the whole service call with a vendor because it was ridiculous.

In fact, I just put a claim in for my refrigerator which could go out at any moment and I could lose everything in it but no one had bothered to give me a call back yet. And I pay American Home Shield $700 a year for this? It's been three days and there hasn't been even a courtesy call. But I received an email that they send automatically saying someone would contact me within 24 hours. However, I've waited 48 hours now. So, I will call them and make sure they get me off this.

The only reason I stay with American Home Shield is because California Service really sucks. I travel a lot and it's easy for me to call the final vendor and say that I have a GFI that keeps blowing. I just don't plug in a thing into that for a week or two until they get it fixed and that's not a big deal. But when I have an issue like the refrigerator, that's a big deal. So I would think that they would at least follow-up with a phone call because who can live without a refrigerator? The other claim I had last year was for my furnace that wouldn't kick on. American Home Shield sent somebody out and the vendor had to order a part and then came back a week later and put the part in. So, I had to go out and buy myself some heaters to warm my house because it was during the winter. It took the vendor a week to get out to take a look at it and then another week to come back in, and so it was two weeks out without a furnace or air conditioner.

American Home Shield's online portal is very intuitive. It’s very easy to use and to schedule something is lickety-split. But it’s hit or miss with their vendors. One time, I had an electrician come out and he was wonderful. I also had a plumber who came out two times on the same day, which was amazing. And even though he was expensive and I didn’t know why he charged me when I already paid the $75, the job was done.

Then, I had the Samsung people come out for my icemaker that hasn't worked since I moved into the house in mid-December. I used Home Shield's service to schedule the repair due in January and until now, I'm still waiting for their tech, James, to fix the ice machine. He was such an idiot and was acting like he was on some kind of an upper.

When James first came over our house and spoke with my daughter, he said that we needed a certain part. Their rep, Samantha, called and told us that she would order the part for us. She took the calls from her home and there was always background noise like kids and dogs. I like both of those but I think that they're a racket and not a real business. And Samantha was sweet but she obviously had no sway with her own people. She said they lost my ticket. Then she ordered the wrong part and didn’t do any due diligence. Later, she said she didn’t remember calling us about it. But my daughter and I remember them calling us about the part.

Then, James came out again for the second time in the beginning of last week and said he knew what part it was. But he said he didn’t have the part number. So I drew the picture of the part and the model number and sent it to them. However, he still hasn’t come back out. It’s the worst customer service I’ve ever had and it was a horrible experience. And when I told the Samsung people that I was gonna make a complaint to American Home Shield, they ran around like chickens with their heads off, saying they were gonna figure it out and send their guy back out. Other than that, everybody else that American Home Shield sent out has been awesome. So, their vendors need to be checked out a bit more thoroughly and a follow-up with them would be really nice.

My doorbell wasn’t functioning anymore. I have an original 1940's chime doorbell and the electricity to it kept burning out. I initiated a claim and American Home Shield sent a company called Wisdom Electric. They came to my house and they said that the wall needed to be opened up, that the electrical wiring had to be changed, and that it was very old and disintegrating. However, AHS didn’t cover the breaking of the wall and that we had to pay that out of pocket.

I never received a follow-up phone call. I called AHS and they said that I would have to contact Wisdom Electric. I contacted Wisdom Electric to let them know that I wanted to pay out of pocket with an additional cost to get this resolved so that they would submit the claim to AHS. Again, I never heard back. The electrician from Wisdom Electric was telling me then what was covered and what wasn’t. I didn’t feel comfortable with that, seeing as how he doesn’t work for AHS. I called AHS and they told me a different information. I requested a second opinion because the electrician kept saying that we have an intercom system, which we don’t. We have a camera that was completely independent of the doorbell which runs on batteries and it's not even connected to the electrical.

The second company came out and confirmed that we do not have an intercom system but it is a doorbell. It is covered under the plan and that we did not have to open up the wall and change the wiring. But it was something within the doorbell that needed to be replaced. So then, he was gonna submit the claim to AHS and see if they wanted to replace the doorbell or if they wanted to order that part. Since the doorbell is old, the electrician said that it would be very difficult to find the part. I never heard anything back. I called AHS to follow-up. They said that they were waiting for the electrician to submit the claim and told me something totally different from what the electrician told me.

Then American Home Shield contacted that electrician and they confirmed that what I was saying was correct. I have it in writing. I told the AHS person that I’m not comfortable with the person from the first company who I didn't agree with and who gave me an incorrect claim entering my home and making the repairs. The rep insisted that that was the policy after I asked for a second opinion. How would I know that he was not gonna do something to sabotage the work or that he’s even gonna be competent to complete the job?

I called and I made a claim against him. They said he’s gonna fix it and it’d be made right. I had no choice and I didn’t like that. It’s my house. I get to decide who does what in my house regardless of what their policies are. That was a terrible policy so I cancelled it. I would rather pay full-price out of pocket to have this electrical repaired than have anything to do with this company again.

The second company that came out was S.M. Electric. I thought that they were gonna make the repair but according to AHS, the first person had to come out because they were the ones that received the payment. I also told AHS that every time I would log in to get a copy of a PDF of what the plan was and what was covered, it wasn’t available online. I don’t have a hard copy of it so I have to base everything on what a contracted electrician is telling me and I don’t know if it is true or not.

And the tech has been telling me that I have to pay this, I have to pay that, and I don’t think that is acceptable as a consumer. I get my policy from AHS. They are the ones that I make my monthly payments to. They should provide me with the information in writing and it should be accessible at all times, but it is not. Also, when the person making the repairs comes to my house and they submit a claim to AHS, AHS should then call and follow up and let me know what’s going on. I shouldn’t have to make multiple calls. So I intend to get my doorbell fixed and pay for it myself.

I filed my first claim online to American Home Shield and the process was very easy. The AC wasn’t turning on anymore, and a contractor came out. I showed him the unit, explained to him what was happening, and he jumped right on it and quickly figured out what it was. I have not used the AC very much but it's been working well. I loved the experience and I am very pleased. I have been actually telling my friends about it and how great the service call was.

For things, especially those that are expensive such as air conditioning units, it helps to have some type of insurance to help cover the costs. And from the actual customer service standpoint, it makes it very easy to get somebody to call. I've called for AC units before at the previous places I've lived, and especially when it starts to get warmer and they start to get busier, they tend to make you wait several weeks before they can get to you. But this one was done within a day. I submitted the request on Friday and the technician was there Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.

I have been using American Home Shield for two years now. I’ve dealt with them in the past on a former house and I was not at all happy with what they did there. But, submitting a claim with them online has been fine and their website has been fairly easy to use. When I wasn’t getting heat on my heater, I submitted a claim and it took three days for the contractor to contact me. My wife was the one at home when the technician came and she said that it went well. The technician knew exactly what was wrong and what to do, and he explained to my wife how to make the heat work correctly. It turned out, it was just a thermostat setting. The house has five thermostats and we didn’t know that all of the thermostats have to be either set to cool, heat or off to make it work correctly. Once we got all the thermostats set, we've had heat.

While everything went fine in that particular call, I’ve had difficulty attempting to bring service on my refrigerator's ice maker that would get frosted up and won't work. I attempted to arrange that with American Home Shield and everything went so well online. I got the confirmation that they received my request and an email, and they said the technician would be out after a certain time. But, nobody showed up. I called American Home Shield on the phone and they looked at my request. When they found it, they said they didn't know if they could get in touch with the technician that late and they would try. Then, they called me back and told me that they were able to get in touch with the technician, but they were not satisfied with the response. They were gonna contact another technician to come out but the soonest they could get to me would be a week.

I asked if there was anybody else that they could send and they said they only have two companies in the area that would service the ice maker. And so far, we haven't heard anything from the technician. In the meantime, I fixed the ice maker myself but it was just a temporary fix. It was just to defrost the ice maker with a hairdryer. That makes it work for a while, but it would eventually frost up again.

Also, my personal dissatisfaction with American Home Shield is that when they would come out to look at something that was wrong with our house, they would tell us they couldn't replace it and would give us a small amount of money toward a new one. They've made it sound that if you have their warranty, they could replace an appliance that breaks down. But they don’t really. It's like buying a water heater or a battery for your car. They prorate it.

I called in a claim for my AC unit and the contractors have been friendly and very nice. They've been out several times before and filled the unit up but it would leak out. They came back out because it was in a 60-day period and refilled it for free. The first cost was $10 and if that was the deal for every two months, I cannot afford that. They came out Thursday and they were going back and forth but they finally decided to replace the unit. They said they were just waiting for American Home Shield to give the final okay on it. But I haven't heard from them since yesterday. I'd definitely recommend AHS.

American Home Shield has been very good about sending out people. I submit a claim with them over the phone and we get our appointment set up. But, the company they contracted for my air conditioning unit had been out here a lot of times and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. The AC sounded like someone was picking it up and dropping it, and my neighbors could hear it from their yard and complained about it. It made a tremendous racket and this had been over a two-year period and I had people out here six different times to get it fixed. And it obviously worked, but it was still not fixed. But that same company also does plumbing, and they've had another fellow come here and repair a problem right away. And he did a good job and was pleasant.

Then finally, this unit upstairs just quit working. And it quit working at a very bad time. I had my house on the market and it cost me the sale of my home. For the most part, AHS has been a very good company. But this issue with the AC that has been going on since I’ve been here is the problem. If the AC can’t be repaired, AHS at least needs to replace the unit. That’s why I pay them every year for and hopefully, they'll get that taken care of. Other than that, AHS really covers a lot of issues and it's nice to know that there's someone there to back you up to take care of it. And I still recommend them no matter what because overall, they have done a nice job for me. It's just my air conditioner.

I opened my refrigerator and realized it was not cold and I had lost all my food. So, I went online with American Home Shield and got a claim number immediately and a message that a technician would be calling me within 24 hours. I thought that it was wonderful. I entered it on a Saturday night and someone was gonna call me on Sunday. I had a party a week later, so I needed it fixed immediately. Ultimately, however, I did not hear back from anybody on Sunday, so I called and got a recording saying that they were closed. So on Monday, I called the contractor. They took all my information and I explained to them that I had a party coming up and really needed someone to come and look at it in case parts needed to be ordered. The woman was very receptive and she told me that she would give me a callback. I was anxious as I had not heard from anyone in a couple of hours, so I called American Home Shield and explained the situation to them.

AHS indicated that they would reach out to the contractor and see what they can do to assist. AHS and the contractor did an awesome job and they actually got someone out Monday. They added me to the list last minute. Also, the tech was very professional and knowledgeable. He said he changed something in the compressor and he fixed the fan and told me to monitor it because he would have to order a part to completely replace it. The part would take three to seven days, so I told him my story about needing my refrigerator immediately because of the upcoming party and he went ahead and fixed it in that manner. And I haven’t had a problem since. This was the first time that I’ve ever had to use American Home Shield service and I was very pleased. In fact, I’ve already recommended it to family and friends.

I have had three problems that were not resolved. The first one was the dryer that was broken. I called AHS and a technician came and cleaned the thing out. He came out again and he said he could not fix it. I told him he only needed to clean out the vent which goes up to the roof and he said that he does not do that. So, I called another service that cost me $120, and they went up on the roof and cleaned it.

There was also a problem with my dishwasher that started February and AHS sent a guy but he couldn't figure it out. He said that they have to take it apart and then they need a motor on it. So, I called them back and I said that the problem was still not resolved and the water was still sitting there. I asked if they would send somebody else out there. Another plumber then came out and he right away said that it was the way the dishwasher was made by the manufacturer and he could not correct that problem. I asked them why did not they tell me that from the beginning. I should not have gone through all that. I already paid $50 to American Shield and I did not get any results yet. Then, the girl on the other end was telling me that I was breaking the contract.

The recent problem was I've had a plumber out to check the drains to see why it was backing up and the smell was too bad. Under my sink, there are three connections for the dishwasher, the garbage disposal, and the sink. They're all connected going down on. The technician didn’t clean it out or look at it. He simply said it wasn’t working. I paid $24 out of my pocket. He also didn't touch or look at the garbage disposal and it still backs up. He said that I gotta do something about that smell. I thought they were gonna do something, but nobody did anything. When I called AHS, they said the contractors aren't gonna do that one because I waited too long. I told them that the guy didn't do anything. I also paid $25 for the part, but I'm still not getting any results.

Then, I called plumbers who don't charge you $75. It's only $50 or $60. So, I said I'd call a plumber and maybe I could take care of the part myself and fix it with a P-trap. The garbage disposal has probably a clog in it, which I told him, "Why don’t you just use it so you could get it cleaned up?" But he never even touched it. I was left hanging, and the smell from the garbage disposal could turn out to be dangerous for our health. I have paid $150 for the same problems that have never been resolved or told me what I could do about it. I've been upset and couldn’t even sleep last night thinking about it. I'm 75 years old, I live alone and I don't have money and the time to find anybody to help me so, I got to deal with what I have. What's the use of having the contract if it's not working? They're a money maker because every time I try to solve something, all I got to do is send over $75 to do it. I would not recommend AHS.

Whenever we call American Home Shield, our experience with the reps are always good and we get a callback from an assigned contractor within 24 hours. The issue with our heating, however, took a bit longer to resolve partly due the fact that there was a storm in the area that had knocked out a bunch of stuff and since the contractor had delayed response. I had to call repeated times to get them in here. Ultimately, when I reached them they had explained everything else and they did come. It took the better part of almost two weeks to resolve the issue and though I understand that part of that had to do with the storm, the lack of communication was certainly not helpful.

Climate Masters, the heating contractor, had an overload of work, which was within reason at some point but at another point, it's like, “Well, you really have to do a better job. You're addressing a customer and even if you can't go, just knowing that, ‘Hey, we've got you and we haven't forgotten about you’”, is important. It is a reassurance that the customers haven't been lost in space or speech. But for the most part, I'm very satisfied with everything that I've had with American Home Shield.

I have had American Home Shield for 2 years and had only called them one time each year. Both times I never got prompt service. The HVAC technicians always took over a 2 weeks and counting, to get something serviced and repaired. My house was constantly in the low 90s every day. AHS kept saying they understood my frustration and never helped resolve any problems I have had. They merely band-aid and do the bare minimums to every problem they come across. Currently they said Kentucky is too busy right now and I would have to find my own licensed and insured HVAC company and pay out of pocket for repairs and be reimbursed later, only if they say it is covered. Most HVAC companies don't want to look at something for AHS.

I don't have the time, knowledge or money to search for and pay a company to spend hours troubleshooting my system to which may not be covered with my home warranty. That is too much responsibility for customers, especially when working all day and getting home after business hours to a house without air conditioning. Every time I call about my claim or problem they act clueless and I get a different response or suggestion every time I call. At some point a professional company should call their customers or contractors and follow through with them to make sure proper action is taking place. I first started with this company to have some peace of mind knowing if something happened I would have AHS there to support me in that time of need. I never thought that I would been neglected to a point where they basically ignore my problems and concerns and basically tell me to do their job for them.

I put in a request for service to AHS, which is pretty simple to do. They sent it to Rapps. I got a email telling me they would call within 72 business hours. Weekends do not count. They called within the 72 hrs, barely. They sent a tech two days later as promised. He diagnosed a bad ac compressor. I was informed he had filled out the paperwork and submitted it to AHS. He said they should be back in about three days. A week goes by and I have not heard from either company. I went to my AHS account and see they put complete on the repair and charged me $80.00. I called Rapps which takes a minimum of 1 hour phone time to get through and then it is 50/50 whether it will drop your call or put you through. They show the work was done and completed.

I explained nothing was done but paperwork and I was waiting on the compressor. They talked to the tech and I was told they would phone it to AHS for authorization and let me know when they were coming. The next day I called AHS they tell me the work was completed. I explained again nothing was done. They checked and said they would call Rapps and get it, of course they could not get a call through either. AHS says, "We will follow through and get the claim paperwork." Three days later I called AHS, could not get through to Rapps. They are still looking the paperwork but will call me tomorrow and decide if it is covered or not and how to proceed. I am not holding my breath they will call but the wait time on their call service is only at 30 minutes. I keep hoping they will stop blaming each other and fix my AC.

First of all after the sales pitch over the phone with a charming person I decided to go with it. She said I could cancel anytime and within the first 30 days there would be no charge. They make you wait 30 days for the service to begin. I received my contract in the mail with the wrong address and wrong email address. I don't know how it got to me only that the postman knows us.

I called the next day which was a Saturday to fix the problems, the recording said to pick billing. It rang and rang and went to hold music playing. I held for ten minutes with no answer. I called back again same problem. The third time I chose service request...the recording asked for a broken item so I made up one. Got someone after a lengthy hold who was able to fix the address and email. He also informed me the billing dept was closed on weekends!! Why didn't the recording state that??? Today I called to have #12 on my contract the re-key option explained...Again many calls to find someone to help after lengthy hold times...they did not know what I was talking about. I was so frustrated.

I asked for the phone number to call to find out info about the contract and the rep had no clue. I called two more times on two of the 6 different numbers they referenced on the contract and left messages to be called back. When I was called back, the recording says you are first in the cue... You wait again on hold for at least 10 minutes till someone answers... at this point I wanted to cancel! The rep said I had to call another number for that!!! I did, waited on hold for almost 20 minutes and cancelled. During my hold time I called Fidelity National Home Warranty and reinstated my contract which will go into effect tonite. Please call Fidelity! They have excellent customer service which to me is everything!!

I called AHS to request a new company that would be able to service my request more timely and they informed me that since the repair company was replying within the required 48 BUSINESS HOURS, that they are not able to assign me to a new contractor.

After several attempts to complain and receive more timely service, AHS refused to transfer my request and required me to wait until this morning for my repair. The repair technician did come to my house but came unprepared with the necessary items (Freon) to repair my refrigerator and explained that they would send someone out by Wednesday, another 2 days of waiting. I have now been without my refrigerator for 5 days and counting!

Upon trying to call customer service today to rectify the situation, not only was I lied to, but also hung up on and left on hold in excess of an hour. I have had to call back several times, each with a half hour hold, only to be told there is nothing they can do to help me. I am now not only going without my refrigerator for a week but will have to expend more time and money to accommodate the poor service provided by AHS. Called AHS to get different company to fix my AC since first one appears too busy even to schedule an appointment. Second company comes in, diagnoses the problem, submits an order to AHS. AHS does not want to pay for equipment, sends different company to do the same job - to diagnose the problem. They find out that the same equipment is needed. So instead of ordering part and fixing the problem I am sitting third week without AC and God only knows WHEN it's going to be fixed. It is end of May in the south.

Updated on 05/30/2018: It's been 4 weeks when I ordered repairs for my AC. Had 3 contractors scheduled to come to my house. Last week was told they can't work because of rain. It stopped raining but don't see any technicians working. Tried to call contractor - just got a message. No response. AHS was told a year ago do not send A-1 Affordable Appliance and Air Repair to my house. Thanks to them I already spent a month without AC a year ago. Guess what. That's A-1 Affordable "doing" repairs to my AC again. Asked for headquarters phone - was told they don't have to give that information to me. After my last complaint was told somebody will contact me about my issues. Guess again - did anyone contacted me? NO. Next I will be going to Better Business Bureau with complaint. After that - I assume there will be legal matters to attend to.

They sent the same plumber who this time said that the expansion tank was bad and needed to be replaced-- 175$$--- not covered by AHS. The leak continued, I contacted AHS again, they sent Bay Mechanical. The plumber then told me that the last guy had put the expansion tank in wrong and I did in fact need a new hot water heater. Later on, I got a phone call from one of the ladies from American Home Shield and she was kind of rude saying that in the near future my contract doesn't cover the bathroom sink. But that was their mistake, not mine.

It would be better if you have a live person instead of having the computer on what you're doing and the work order. I know that's not the way we do business these days anymore, but it would be more convenient for everybody. Call American Home Shield and do a contract. They give you a list on everything that they cover and you just call them for whatever repairs you got. They have a deductible and they go from there. Either they don’t fix it, they prorate it and they can just get a new one, whatever the issue is. I still wanna recommend AHS to my friends and I always do that.

Our air conditioner broke. It was making a noise and the motor went out. I had a pleasant experience when I submitted the claim. I called American Home Shield and told them I was having an air conditioner trouble. The rep was very prompt and courteous on the phone. She said she'd get back at me and about 10 minutes, she called me back. They sent the repairman who came out the next day.

The man called about 8:30 in the morning and he said that he was on the way. He was a very nice guy, a real gentleman and everything went smoothly. He answered all the questions that my wife and I had. He told me that he was trying to get through with it before the sun got hot which I understand. He first checked the Freon and then checked something else. And then he took the top off, pulled the motor out and he said that the motor was the problem. He said he would change it so he went and got one off the truck, brought it and stuck it on there. It took about two hours to finish his job. I signed the paper and that was the end of it. He did a wonderful job and I haven’t had any trouble since then. It seems to be running pretty good like it was before having trouble.

When I submitted a claim for the ice maker on the refrigerator to American Home Shield, I send it over the phone. The process went fine. Service One was very good because I had a comparison from another service call. Before, I put the refrigerator on American Home Shield and it was not repaired. And this guy from Service One came in and he knew exactly what to do. It was a mistake in the manufacturing. They since have revised their manufacturing process on ice makers where they made it all one piece. He came in and put a silicon seal in there because what was happening is it freezes up every couple of weeks and I had to clean it with a hair dryer to loosen the ice all out and get it going again. The guy seems to have fixed it. And the whole thing’s been working better since. He’s very efficient, showed up on time, and worked on it and got it done.

AHS' customer service is good. I had them when I lived in Texas and had no problem with them. But some of the contractors they employ are less than par which has been a problem since I've been with American Home Shield. In the past, I had A to Z Plumbing over and over again and they never knew what was wrong. They had to come back three times 'cause they would forget a part, said that it wasn't under warranty, collected their money and just left. I then hired my own plumber and had it fixed. On the other hand, the recent contractor was excellent. I only had hot water coming out of the faucet. It was a clog and the cold water was completely shut off. The guy knew exactly what was wrong, had the part and fixed it right away. He was in and out in no time and did a very good job. I was very pleased with this company.

We had a plumbing leak and we had a problem with American Home Shield because the first plumber that they sent out couldn’t get to where the leak was, which I thought was strange on behalf of American Home Shield that they didn’t tell the plumber where he would be going. It was under my house. And then the report that he submitted was that there was no leak. We had to get a second opinion, somebody who would actually go under the house. But the reps were incredibly helpful and informative. They let us know what the next steps were if they had not found the leak on the second opinion. It was SDL Plumbing who ended up doing the repair and they were absolutely wonderful. They couldn’t quite handle it during the first time so they came back out and tested the leak and checked everything. They were quick, clean and helpful.

However, when I did it online, I thought AHS created the appointment, and it took half the day before I realized I was supposed to do it. When they send out a universal text, it should say, "You are responsible for the appointment." Other than that, the contractor company came in and the technician was great in terms of professionalism. He went through everything, found that cable, hooked it back up and we were back in service.

American Home Shield did well on the plumbing claim. We had a spot forming in the ceiling that they were worried about and they sent somebody out within two days. Sure enough, the spot got larger within those two days and the minute the guys came out and cut through the ceiling, it was soaking wet. It turned out we had a toilet flange that had been leaking for however long it takes to soak all the way through drywall and puddle up in there. The guys who came out did a good job. They were forthright and honest about our expectations.

The biggest problem that American Home Shield has is managing its clients’ expectations. We’re now three weeks into our fridge claim and we still don’t have a fridge. It has been very frustrating dealing with them. They seem to honor their word but they don’t really honor their time commitments. The repairmen who came out said they would get the paperwork in that evening. But it was a Friday so when we called the next day, it was Saturday and they were closed. By Monday, the serviceman still hadn’t turned in the paperwork and when we call American Home Shield, it takes forever to get a hold of them. Then it was gonna take three days for somebody to get back to us to see what kind of fridge they would offer us.

Each little thing takes longer and the next thing we know, we’re out three weeks for a new fridge and we’re living out of coolers. We’re not the Donner Expedition and we’re not starving to death. But that puts a sour taste in our mouth for what was, or still is, a decent company if they can clean up their act. If American Home Shield was upfront with us, it would be so much better. They should have said that they’re gonna honor their warranty and eventually get us a fridge but it’s gonna take them three to four weeks, possibly even a month. We can plan for that.

Trying to file a file a claim over the phone is next to impossible as well. When we initially get on the phone, there’s a recording that lets us know, “Don’t worry. You won’t be waiting no longer than five minutes.” And it’s true. Somebody gets back to us within five minutes and picks up the line. But it’s just an answering service. They build our expectations up that we’re getting a person to help in five minutes only to find out that it’s just an answering service because they’re too busy. And every time we pick up, it’s “higher than usual call volumes”, meaning the wait is longer than usual. If that’s the way it is all the time, that’s the usual, not “than usual”. In turn, that translates into lower than usual service except now, it’s become lower service as usual. It really is disheartening.

And because we are forced to wait in that line, we’re already angry by the time we get a hold of somebody. It’s not the employees' fault and to their credit, they’ve put up with our tirade. They’ve been very civil to us and helpful. We get their word, but it doesn’t really mean a whole lot anymore. When our sink was completely clogged up, trying to initially get a hold of them, liaise with them and work through the whole process was a nightmare. It left a bad taste in our mouth. But we paid $75 for each visit whereas it probably would have cost us $1500 if we took care of that on our own. The first person they sent out snaked 30 feet down the pipes and we thought it was fixed. But the sink backed up again so they sent out a scope guy who took a look. Then they sent out somebody else. American Home Shield did a good job. They’re value for the money and we really appreciate them.

American Home Shield has a decent service. I just hate to see screw-ups costing them so much. I would let people know what’s going on with their company but I’d still recommend them. They have good employees and their heart’s in the right place. The warranty is good for my wife because although I’m a handyman myself, I work off-shore. When something fails around here and I’m away for a month, my wife has somebody to call to service whatever.

He said that we were gonna wait on it to see if it works. I let it sit for about two weeks before I called them back. The icemaker wasn’t the traditional icemaker problem where it stopped working. It just wouldn’t turn off. The little switch that makes it stop wouldn’t trigger it to stop. The contractor had to manually do it and turn it off. It wasn’t a big deal, so we kept doing what we were doing. There was some miscommunication between me and the tech, but it was completely resolved. He came back and he replaced the whole thing. Someone else submitted the AC claim for me and did it over the phone and the wait time was ridiculous. When I had my first American Home Shield issue I was on the phone for 55 minutes. I had to call back and had the same thing so I will never do the phone experience again. Now I have a new claim in and that is for a vent that stopped working on my Thermador. It's a backdraft and it's a large unit about 40 inches long. I submitted the claim for that one myself online and it was super easy.

Other than that, I've used AHS twice successfully. The contractor with the AC unit was extremely nice. He did his repair with a new motherboard and it worked out very nicely. He was also very personable, very knowledgeable and went on to explain so it was a very good find. Since the repair, there has been no problem and I hope it stays that way. AHS has been receptive and their people that have come to do the work has been excellent. I would recommend the warranty to a friend.

He was here for about an hour and a half and did his job. But what happened was, I went back to New York and my wife stayed here with the dogs. I told her to shut off the sprinkler, but she shut off the AC's breaker box. So it was a mistake. When I had the fella here, I said that as I was paying for him to be there, might as well check out the AC and make sure it has the Freon and that everything was right. He checked all the pressures and everything was great. Everything went smoothly.

AHS has been doing very well. I had 'em do something with the plumbing. I had a water leak down the back of my toilet tank. I called up the company and they set an appointment and change the whole interior and nothing was leaking anymore. I would appreciate 'em again. I have a friend that works with Sears that repairs our refrigerator, washer, and dryer. He told me to call this company because they're one of the better ones to be using out there. When you have something that can wait a day or two for, they set it up and everything is fine. They are very fair with the prices and very quick in getting back to you to set up an appointment. One of my A/C units was completely dead and the other one wasn’t too far behind. A guy came out, checked the evaporator coolers on them and found them both leaking. The gentleman submitted the claim to American Home Shield then they called me back and told me what part they would cover and what I'd have to pay to replace both evaporator coolers or to replace both complete units. They were about 12 years old so I was thinking it might be time to get some new ones.

I informed AHS that I decided to replace the units but I didn’t go through the same company that had come out. I went through a different company, purchased two new units and had the two new units installed. Then I submitted a cash-in-lieu back to AHS for what they would have paid to repair the two and they're sending me a check for that.

American Home Shield is a good protection to have because I've actually used it on two different water heaters prior to the A/C unit problem and I had one replaced and the other repaired. I’ve had really good luck with AHS. My biggest problem is the scheduling. I work five days a week and every other Saturday so it’s tough to have to take off and sit at home waiting for somebody to show up. I told a contractor one time to call me 30 minutes before he was going to head to my house so that I can beeline it there and it worked out. But they just come out and give an assessment. They don’t repair it the same day so if they can do the assessment on a Saturday, it would be awesome.

Then, American Home Shield called me back and said they were gonna have to exchange the washer out which was okay with me. I gave the rep all the information except for two details on what the length was and what it was across.

I resubmitted the information back to them today and I’m getting a little frustrated. This morning, I was on the phone for at least an hour from one agent to another one. I was told how they value the calls and then, I'd wait for 10 to 15 minutes and then the phone went dead. I’ve been trying to get a hold of them but I can't. I got a washer that needs to be removed and replaced and I don’t have a whole lot of time to be at the house because I work. I’ll wait and see if they’re gonna do the replacement of the washer. If not, then I have to go to the other direction to have them send me the check, and then I will go and buy one myself.

When I've submitted claims to American Home Shield in the beginning, contractors came out and checked everything I wanted. They did piping, the plumbing and a couple of things. When they did the garbage disposal, they also did the sink and they checked the washer. And everything was fine. The garbage disposal and the faucet were taken care of pretty fast.

We've only owned the house for a year and a half. It's been a winter and the heat was not coming out of the heat pump. Opening the claim was good with AHS. What I'm not as happy about was it took over three weeks to get the right part finally approved. They had to keep going back and forth to ask for approval. I talked to the vendor and they told me that American Home Shield had first denied it. Then it took a while to repair so in the meantime, my bill went up really high because it was running on a fan on the heater which wasn't very good. But it's working fine now and when we get the warm weather then it gets cool. I had one other claim with that house for some plumbing and they were fantastic. We were happy with both of the contractors they sent for the claims.

I have opened the claim online but I called a couple of times. There was one time I was on hold for over an hour to speak to somebody and it was really bad. But once I got to talk to them, it was good and they were nice. They could work on the wait time when people call. That's the biggest frustration because things were broken and so I had to wait and take a lot of my personal time to contact them. For the most part, it's a good value to have the home warranty.

Our washer was making a bunch of squealing noises so I filed the claim and American Home Shield sent a technician. In fact, they had a couple of technicians come over on two different occasions to look at it. When they came, they already knew what the circumstances were. They looked at the washer and identified the fact that there was a bearing underneath it, on the bottom, that had been worn out. It was going bad and it needed to be replaced but they did not have the part to replace it with on the first visit. The first guy that came in seemed to imply that they should have known, based on the description of the defect, to at least have some basic parts available.

They did repair it and I’ve been washing clothes with it. But it is still making noises although it's not as bad as it was. At this point, I’m not sure as to whether or not I need to follow-up with anything. Still, American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield about a month ago about my refrigerator and the contractor who came out was a decent young guy. He looked at the refrigerator and at first, he couldn’t figure out where the horrible noise was coming from. He was here for 45 minutes, listened to it, looked at it and got some information. And finally, he said that it was very expensive to fix. It had something to do with a major repair and he had to send some paperwork in but he didn't. American Home Shield said they couldn’t do anything until he sent the paperwork so he called him but he was out on vacation. Finally, he came back and they got it all taken care of.

If someone would call them on a Monday, it's hard to get a hold of them and they're probably gonna have a few minutes wait. Still, it was good working with them and I am totally pleased. I have recommended them to a whole lot of people and several of my friends have started using them just because I recommended them. But I wish they have some kind of program where I could get something out of it. Still, they’ did really good with me and I’m a faithful believer in them. They were always very punctual, decent and friendly.

There were incidents when I had an appliance go out but AHS wanted to pay a fraction of what the appliance would cost and I wasn't happy with that. But with my claim for my Sub-Zero freezer, my experience was better. I made my claim over the phone since my computer was not working. The contractor they sent was very good and the freezer has been working fine since the repair.

My wife submits claims online, but if I have to do it then I'll have to do it by telephone. My experience with the reps over the phone has been excellent and the contractor that’s been sent out has been fine and good to work with. The most recent claim was for a pipe that's between floors of a two-storey house. And we're still trying to track down where the pipe was leaking at. American Home Shield was trying to get the contractor that came for the pipe issue scheduled to come back out, but I'm busy. They’ve called, but I haven't been able to give them a time when I can be back there yet.

American Home Shield has been pretty good but sometimes I get confused. I have two separate policies where I have one in my house in Lindale, Texas and another in my house in Hawkins. And they're both taken out at different times in a month out of my checking account, but I'm still not sure which one’s which. Not that it makes any difference, but I keep them straight in my checkbook. If I knew which one was coming out at the beginning of the month and which one comes later in the month, it would help me ease my mind. Other than that, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield's service.

We were told one thing and then when the contractor came out, it was something really different. Their training needs to be upscaled. Also, their contractors are hit or miss. The most recent claim I filed was for my AC. The contractors came out late yesterday but they haven't fixed anything yet.

Then, I got an email back from American Home Shield about what company I was supposed to contact to schedule the service. It was very easy. The techs who came were quick and very good. They looked at the different areas that needed to be fixed and then went ahead and contacted American Home Shield before they did any work to make sure everything was gonna be covered. Then, they came back and everything was covered. Everything went well and I've been very happy with American Home Shield's service. In fact, we’re planning on renewing for next year.

I had an issue with the pool's motor pump in this rental property and it had to be replaced, which was fine. But a week later, I got a call from the renter saying that the filtration system has a leak. I called American Home Shield and I asked if they can send somebody to evaluate and see what it is. AHS contracted Pool Busters to go out there. And then I got a call from Pool Busters and they said that the filter was broken and that they needed to replace it. I told them that I just replaced it about a year ago. They said I don't have to worry since I would just pay for my deductible and they'd get AHS to get it replaced. I told them that I don't want to pay that type of a deductible especially on a brand new filter. I also told them I'd get my maintenance guy to go take a look at it and I'd call them back.

I called my maintenance guy. He came back and said there was nothing wrong with the filter. The bolts just needed tightening right in the middle where the filter connects. He fixed it and charged me around $19.99 for the adjustment. I sent a very upset text at the Pool Buster lady and I said their evaluation of the problem with my filter was incorrect. Then she said they didn’t tell me that it was broken and just said it might be. I told her that the pool guy just made an adjustment where it clips on and he tightened up the bolts.

The lady from Pool Buster got all upset and I said it is bad business sense and that they are trying to rip me off and AHS as well. I also told her that I will report Pool Buster. So I filed a report with AHS because they need to be aware of potential scam artists like the Pool Buster people especially because I got it fixed for a cheap price. AHS should be aware that Pool Busters is not a company that they might want to contract with because if that's what they wanted to do with the filter, who knows what they want to do with the others. But with American Home Shield, I have no issues.

We needed to be able to get the golf cart in and out of the garage. It was great and easy to submit the claim. The people at American Home Shield were very friendly. However, the first company that American Home Shield sent out was horrible. They came out three times and they were horrible all those times. They tore up the garage door instead of fixing it.

The second company that American Home Shield sent out told me that they had had problems with that company all along. And that they just want to sell me something which was what the guy did. The second company was awesome and wonderful. They've been really helpful at the home warranty place. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. They always made sure that if I had a service ordered that it was taken care of regardless of how many times the people had to come out. And they were always apologetic when things happen that weren't to my satisfaction and help me get it straightened out.

He didn’t do anything the first time, and I sure didn't want him back out here again. AHS said, “No, he has to come three times before we can assign someone else.” And he never called back. Although I had a couple of other questions and depending on who I was talking to, there were some different answers which was a bit tricky. I finally got someone who knew completely what they were talking about and so I told the representative that I talked to someone the other day who said that they weren’t sure and they sounded confused. This representative said that if there are two different trainers and depending on which trainer they get, they get a different answer.

So I told the representative that they should get that fixed. Having been in the same situation since I worked in the call center before, I said that I hate it when that happens. Besides, when it comes to training trainers, some people are very by the book when there’s a gray area. Other than that, since the repair, my AC has been doing well.

I have had AHS for about 5 months now. It was proposed by my realtor and paid for by the seller of the home when we closed. So far I have had to use it several times and have several different experiences, more bad than good. I will explain my current experience that is still unresolved then briefly explain past experiences.

My most recent repair request was on my electric stove/range. The dial for one of the burners was very sensitive to heat settings and often would sporadically fluctuate from the setting it was supposed to be set at too high or low etc. So I filed a request about 3 weeks ago along with my dishwasher because it was not draining (we never used it but both were covered under the same visit). It seemed like the switch could be a safety/fire hazard since sometimes I would set it on low and next thing I know it is on high.

Anyways, the technician came out, I believe within a few days, and quickly fixed the dishwasher (just needed the drain plug knocked out on the drain) and said the switch for the stove just needs to be replaced. Simple fix, just needed to order the part. I believe I missed their call the following week when they received the part so I had called back, but no answer. I called for several days until I got an answer and scheduled the repair. Later that week the technician came out to do the repair and after he finished he saw that the oven was not working at all. None of the electronic controls were responding and nothing at all was coming up on the main display, like the time, etc. He messed with it for about an hour and took it all back apart to make sure nothing accidentally came loose. He knew it worked before because the time was displayed before he started and turned off the power.

He was unsuccessful with getting it to work, he said likely the Electronic Oven Controller got fried somehow during the repair and he doesn't think it can be replaced, so he said he would put in for a replacement. I talked to the home warranty and told them all of the features, size etc and a few days later they proposed a replacement. I compared the measurements that I could measure, without fully pulling out the oven, as best as I could and I said sure it looks like it would work. A couple days later the delivery people came to exchange out the stove and when it was pulled out they saw that the countertop was slightly narrower at the entrance where the stove goes in and it wouldn't fit the new one. So I told them that I was going to call AHS and see what I should do since I vaguely remembered the information they told me when I ordered it.

I got a response from the automated system that it could take greater than 30 minutes to speak to someone (which isn't unusual, I have waited for over an hour multiple times in the past). The delivery guy doesn't say anything in response and went outside. I went into my office to wait for someone to answer and next thing I realize is that the delivery people are leaving. They had already taken the new oven and replaced the old one and left. They didn't say anything to me or try to communicate if they would try to reschedule or come back later or if they were just going to say I refused it. After 40 minutes I finally get ahold of someone. They pretty much just told me that according to my contract I would have to be responsible for any modification fees or restocking fees by sending it back. I stated that since the technician broke my oven maybe they should try to come and install/modify it.

They said that it was in my contract that it was my responsibility, regardless of the circumstances. So I said that I wanted to speak to a supervisor, someone that might care about the customer and the entire situation, not just a contract. She put in the request and said that it may take 24-48 hours for the supervisor to contact me. The next day I had missed the call from the supervisor because I was at work but all she did was leave a message restating the contract terms and told me to call appliance ordering to continue with the replacement procedures. I called the appliance department and asked to speak to the supervisor because I actually wanted to talk to her, not just listen to a voicemail that explained my contract. The person said that the supervisor already addressed the situation and she would not be able to submit another request.

She then put me on hold and when she came back she said that the delivery company reported the delivery refusal and I was now charged with $256 for restocking fees. I told her that there is no way I am paying that because I didn't refuse it, I just wanted to speak to a rep first to clarify my options. I discussed my concerns for about 30 minutes and eventually said that obviously she couldn't help me and that I need to be transferred to someone that can or a supervisor. She transferred me to the customer service department which was another 30+ minute hold. The rep that answered was very understanding and she tried to talk to her supervisor team, the escalation department but they said that my concerns could only be helped by the appliance supervisor department. So she had to transfer me back to the original department I was first speaking to for another long wait time.

The rep that answered, I am pretty sure was the same rep that I first talked to, had the same response of course, that according to my contract I was responsible for paying $256 for the restocking fee. I continued to address my concerns saying that I shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket considering I had a fully working oven before their tech came and broke it during a repair on a switch. All she did was repeat the contract terms and said I am the one responsible and will have to pay it, AHS will not pay it. I asked how can she speak for the entire company and just because it is in the contract that it would be my responsibility to pay for it, that maybe someone higher up cares about customer satisfaction and about the series of unfortunate circumstances presented through this process.

That maybe that person is willing to say that AHS or the contractors will assume responsibility for the charges, although that is not in the contract. Because as it stands, I now have a broken oven, which wasn't the case at the start of the process, and I am supposed be liable for all the charges, even though this all possibly could have been avoided or resolved if a couple things happened. 1. The delivery people communicated that they were going to leave and report that I was refusing it. 2. The wait time wasn't reasonable so the delivery people didn't have to leave. 3. My oven didn't get broken during the repair process. The rep just restated the contract so I told her I want to speak to a supervisor and she said my issue was already addressed. I told her that I have a new issue regarding this phone call with her.

She continued to deny me the ability to speak to a supervisor and said that if I had no further concerns that she will now be ending the call, and she hung up. I called back to speak to customer service and explained the whole situation over again and said I just want to speak to any supervisor, I don't care what department, etc. She said she would put in a request to speak to the customer service supervisor and it may take 24-48 hours. it has now been 3 or 4 days and no response. I don't understand how it is so hard to try to get into contact with someone that cares about the company and customer service more than a contract. I'm not just trying to complain to not have to pay the fee because I don't want to accept fault. I feel there has been multiple faults presented through this process and AHS should pick up some of the responsibility.

I am not against paying partial fees or trying to work with them in some way. It is frustrating when all representatives do is repeat the black and white lines of a contract as if customer loyalty/satisfaction and circumstances presented during the process doesn't play a role at all. And if at the end of the day, when I reach the highest person In charge that I possibly can, when they stand by that contract and don't feel they should assume any responsibility, fine I will pay the fees, but I will absolutely never continue any form of business with them following my contract expiration and I share my experience/dissatisfaction with others.

So I understand that, under normal circumstances, if an appliance was broken, under wear and tear or by myself, and AHS offered to replace it, I would agree to a replacement and I would then be responsible for any modifications or returns if it did not work. I also understand that is still the case in my situation and that it was briefly understood when I agreed on the model to be delivered. I just wish someone would address this situation more deeply and in a customer satisfaction standpoint since there were multiple layers of issues presented.

In this situation, the oven/stove worked fine, other than one sensitive switch, and the technician contracted to repair it then completely broke my appliance during their repair. At that point if any extra fees should occur, I believe that all/most should fall back on AHS or the contracted company, since I had a functional appliance before they broke it. Either way I measured it the best that I could to determine if it would work, but without pulling it out and disassembling some stuff it would not have been possible to compare and determine fitment based off a brochure that shows specs.

I feel like if they are going to replace an item they should probably have a technician come out and confirm fitment, not the consumer. Either way it seems that I am now supposed to be stuck with a broken appliance (again, that worked before their tech "repaired" it) because I am unable to pay for fees that could have been resolved/avoided and AHS doesn't want to assume any responsibility, just because of the black-and-white lines of a contract.

Past experiences - Had an issue with a few leaking pipes and a clogged drain. The technician came out pretty quickly and fixed all of the leaks. For the shower drain he said he saw traces of grout at the start of the drain and believed when the bathroom was remodeled the people just flushed the grout down the drain and clogged it. He tried to use a little metal line to see if it would help but was unsuccessful. He reported it to AHS and they said that was not covered since it wasn't normal wear and tear. I ordered a snake camera online and found that there was very little traces of grout but mostly sand and other stuff. I spent about 2 hours with a shop vac and a line and got it completely clear. The tech had no true confirmation of what the blockage was from but just assumed what it was and resulted in no coverage. The tech was nice and overall I would rate this experience 3/5.

My first real issue was that my heat was not working. The tech came out pretty fast. Found that the wiring of the thermostat was wired for a heat pump so it was turning on the ac unit with the main unit. He rewired it and said he checked the heat strips and said everything was working. Well after he left I felt the air coming out of the vent and it was still cool, not even warm. So I called the repair company and told them it is not working still. He had just left 15 minutes ago and they said they can reschedule for the following week. I had already waited a few days for him to come out and I was a little frustrated but they still wouldn't be able to get him back that day or the following and they suggested that the system needed time to warm up. Well after 3 hours of the heat being on, my house dropped 1 degree. So I called AHS and they said I had to deal with the repair company.

So I scheduled the next available appointment and he came out and said everything is fine. I asked why my house is not heating up and he said because the heat strip I have is 7.5kw and I need at least 10 or 15 I think. I told him that even if it is small it should still blow some heat and probably slowly heat the house, that most likely the heat strip is not operating correctly. He said his multimeter readings show it is all working right and he left. I loosened the top of heat strip so I could see it and watched it after I turned the system on. The very end of it was getting warm then constantly shutting off. I looked at videos on how it is supposed to work and the whole thing is supposed to get hot, like glow slightly orange. In complete darkness I could not see any glow or feel any radiating heat from it. I found the same replacement heat strip online for $30 and fixed it myself and it worked 100 times better.

**Overall the experience I have had with the repairs I have needed have been pretty poor/fair. Most of the technicians are decent, other than the HVAC experience. This current issue with the range stove is really pushing my patience with this company and would never consider continuing service with them, recommending them to anyone else, or using them for any future home buying/selling.

I have even contacted the realtor that I used for buying my current home, as she recommended this company when we purchased this home. I have told her about this experience and expressed my thoughts on recommending an alternative company to future clients of hers. For now I will wait to see what happens with this current issue and hope they do not try to charge me entirely for the extra fees or leave me responsible for additional costs to install the current item. An additional comment is also that their wait time to talk to a representative is always terrible. I think the average time I wait is about 45 minutes.**

I had an issue with a main line stoppage at my home and a problem with a running bathtub faucet. AHS sent out Shorts Plumbing who circled the home one time, shoved their cell phone in my face about a contractual problem regarding if they could not locate sewer outlet, and then proceeded to tell AHS that my shower handle was broken "due to excessive force," which was not true since I have never forced the faucet and secondly that particular bathtub was seldom used. This voided my warranty on the faucet. Shorts then proceeded to inform me they would come back, though, themselves and fix the sewer problem for $700 and the faucet problem for $400! And left. I had to call an outside plumber and pay $200 to have problems resolved.

The final insult was to be charged by AHS $81.19 for this JOKE of a service call. So, not only did I have to find an outside plumber and pay $200 but also had to pay $81.19 for these jokesters who did NOTHING!!! I am FURIOUS. There are, I understand, several other home warranty companies out there with much better track records and I intend to check them out. Choice Warranty, for one. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of submitting it and getting the contractor to come out and resolve the situation with the appliances. The contractor had given me a phone call saying when to expect them, and they let me know when they were only 10 minutes out. Both times, they were very professional and courteous and I was also pleasantly surprised with the service. He repaired the ice box. And then I told him about the dishwasher. And he said I needed a new motor and they needed to order that.

It took a little bit of time to get the part in for the dishwasher. And I was wondering what had been happening because they never gave me an update on it. But I called back and they told me the part was on back-order. I just wanted to make sure they hadn’t forgotten about me, but once they got the part, they came in and resolved it. On May 12, a technician from Piedmont Mechanical came out and said it needed a new compressor, it would take 3 days to come in and by the way, he told us he heard a noise coming from our 2nd air unit which cools the upstairs, and suggested we put in a second work order for that repair. He said he could not look at it without a second work order. I even offered to pay him or AHS over the phone so he wouldn’t have to make a second trip, or common sense, order the parts for both units at the same time. He refused.

On May 14, we called in the second work order and it’s now May 19 and still no word from AHS or Piedmont Mechanical on when the part will be in for the first unit and no inspection has been done on the second air unit. We have called AHS 2 times and Piedmont Mechanical 2 times as well as sent emails asking for updates. I have been a customer of AHS for more than 10 years. They used to provide fast and good services. The only way to contact customer service about issues with contractors is to call and you can stay on hold for several hours. The quality of the service contractors has been getting worse. It now takes 3-4 days to get a contractor to do a service call. I placed a call for a pool heater which had been installed per code. The contractors seemed more interesting in trying to find reasons why the repair should not be covered by the insurance and denying the claim.

AHS was there when I needed it. There was a leak underneath the sink and I had tried tightening everything. I called AHS and they set something up the next day. As it turned out, I canceled it because it had gotten to be so late and I had a commitment in the evening. They canceled that right off and rescheduled it. The reps were good, very polite, efficient and didn’t take long at all. The plumbing person was here literally two minutes. He came and just cranked it again and it hasn't leaked since.

The AC wasn't working. The temperature was staying about 82, and it didn't matter what we set it on the thermostat. I submitted a claim over the internet to American Home Shield, which was very easy. You go on the internet on your account. There's a menu there, and you go to the AC not working. And then, we got a message back giving us the vendor's name and stating that they would be calling within 24 hours. Then the vendor called and we set up an appointment. And then, they moved it up a couple of days when they had an opening. They always kept in touch with us. When the time for the appointment came, a guy called us about half an hour before. He said he was on the way. He was very effective, so communication was good. I don't know how they could have done it any better.

As a matter of fact, we were concerned because when we looked them up and looked at some of the reviews they had, they were fairly negative. But we had no problems with these guys. Since the repair, we haven't had any trouble since. We've been clients for about five years now and have used them twice a year. We find them cost-effective. Even when we pay $75 for a service call, we still come out ahead. We paid for a refrigerator, a dishwasher, a pool pump, and air leaks in the pool system. There's always something and it's part of maintaining a house, and they've been a great partner in doing that. American Home Shield has been very positive. I'm a Realtor and I push home warranties all the time. If the house is a little bit older and doesn't have all new stuff in it, I always tell my friends to get a warranty. There are other companies, but I haven't shopped because I didn't feel the need to.

We had a leak going on in the toilet. I went online and put an order request in through American Home Shield and their website was easy to navigate. They then assigned me Gaithersburg Plumbing. The representative came out on time, did a good job of fixing the leak, and I paid $125 per incident charged for coming out. So all in all, it was a good experience. With American Home Shield, usually the contractor will reach out early on the next day and a lot of times, these contractors really want to do the best they can because obviously, having a contract with American Home Shield is very advantageous as they do lots of contracts. However, my gripe with American Home Shield is that they automatically assign you a provider for the service.

Now in most instances, that’s not an issue but there was one time where I had a microwave issue and the group they assigned to that was far away. And they never showed up. They called me the next time and asked if I wanted to set up another appointment but they weren’t able to accommodate a weekend. It was a horrible experience. So the next time they were assigned to me, I wanted to switch to a different vendor but there were no means to do that. I also tried to cancel the order with them online and kept trying to get somebody different but they kept assigning me the same group over and over again. In the end, I abandoned AHS for that work and just did it independently. I bought myself a new microwave and paid the contractor to install it instead of dealing with them because it was such a poor experience.

It’s also extremely difficult to get on a phone line with AHS. There’s gonna be a half-hour wait on the phone then sometimes, even after a half-hour, nobody ever picks up. A company that big should have a call center ready where you can talk to them about what happened. Also, they do most of their stuff by email but that doesn't work if there’s a problem.

American Home Shield is far superior to any other warranty company that I had dealt with. They are a lot faster and much more pleasant to deal with. I switched to AHS and I haven't had a single problem since. When there was a problem with the kickstart on my AC, I submitted my claim online then I got an email stating AHS found somebody. It was really easy. They sent me a text message and everything. And the contractor who came was great. He knew exactly what was wrong and fixed it in three minutes. He knew what he was talking about and was really nice. He even a joke with my daughter and waved goodbye to her. Since the repair, I've had no issues.

Getting AHS is the smart thing to do and people should do it. Aside from that, the mere fact of how easy it is to get help through them is the biggest winner along with how fast that their technicians are assigned and come out. With other companies, they make you wait three days for someone to pick up the job and it's another 48 hours before they even contact you to make an appointment. And when your AC's out, you don't have that long. American Home Shield has somebody out here in 24 hours.

But it has been working very well in Oklahoma. I used to call since we own the house and that was for 12 years. The technician would check out the issue and see what was wrong. Then if there was a part, they would call American Home Shield for authorization and then they would fix it. Also, there was one time when they had to replace the appliance.

Because of the cool weather, it wasn’t a real emergency. Still, they were very prompt in getting out there. They were out on Monday morning and were very professional. We needed to reload the air conditioner with Freon and the warranty only covers so much a pound so we just made up the difference. I’ve had American Home Shield since I bought the house about 20 years ago and having it gives me peace of mind. For whatever cost a month and then with some of the stuff that I can’t do myself, it makes sense to have it. And I stayed with them because of the air conditioners. We'll never know it can go out tomorrow and we’re coming into summer so they’re gonna be working hard.

Last year I had some AC problems and their contractor came out a number of times. And then this year the AC didn’t come on so they finally put a compressor in one unit. They also fixed a leak in the other. And since they were out so much last year we’re on a first name basis. I request the same company and they’ve been doing good. I'm in Dallas and for the last couple of months we went from putting the heater on, then the air-conditioner on, the heater again, and then the air conditioner on. So when it came time to put the heater on, one heater didn’t work and they came out and fixed it. And I said, “Hey, I hope I don’t see you for a while.” Well, few days later it’s time to put the AC on and then that’s when the one unit didn’t come on. And I thought, “Man, I spoke too soon.”

Whenever I need to submit a claim with AHS, I do it over the phone so I can speak with somebody and sometimes it’s easy, sometimes I hold for a bit. But lately it’s been better. And dealing with their reps has been a good experience too. I’ve occasionally checked out different companies and they’re all about the same, though American Home Shield might be a step above. The pricing seems to keep going up, but then so does everything else.

So I had to call them about it and the tech came out fast after that. He was great and he communicated with me what was happening. I had him before at my house and I was appreciative that he came back. He was a good person and it was a good company to work for, too. So far, I've referred three people to American Home Shield. My experience with them was fine, but most of the times lately, I have to call instead of having to deal with my claim online because I couldn't ask for certain things online like not sending some companies that I didn't want at my house anymore. So, I wish that I could refer certain companies online instead of just getting whoever they randomly picked.

I had moved my mom in with me and she's 70 plus. She was melting. I thought I had my insurance covered 24 hours, but no one was able to come out and relieve us from the heat over the weekend. It was very disappointing that nobody came out after 5:00 or 6:00 or 6:00 to 7:00 or whatever time it was on a Friday, and it was in the 80s or 90s the whole weekend. I had to wait for somebody to come on Monday. Then when the tech came, he said he would have to change out the motor and he said that the motor and the compressor was not the same thing. We were having trouble with our toilet, sink and microwave. The toilet stopped and has to have a new sealer inside of it. I called and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I put in the call for the plumbing and the appliances all together, and when the rep did the one for the microwave, it was incorrectly done. So I told her it was a combination, all-in-one and she marked it as two separate units and so I needed to call back again because otherwise, it wouldn’t have been covered.

The people who came out were an all-in-one. They were a plumbing, heating, and air company. However, the plumber didn’t really do anything with the toilet. He said it’s old and it needs to be replaced but he never mentioned if it’s covered under the warranty or not. He dumped some stuff in it and it wasn’t working as well. He also said if he needed to snake the sink, it’ll cost us an extra $200 out of our pocket. We had another appliance man come out and he was very thorough with me in talking about things that are covered and aren’t covered and how the whole system works.

Also, it would have been better if American Home Shield would give clearer information as to how the plan works because I was informed how it works by the appliance man. They said that the items may be covered but they may or may not be depending on the age and the severity so we’re thinking a home warranty covers the home and it’s funny now that it doesn’t.

It was almost two weeks before the contractor could come out and replace the water heater.

The contractor that was sent out by American Home Shield was fine. He was a nice kid and acted like he knew what he was doing. But he neglected to measure the bottom correctly like he should have, so when they replaced the water heater, they had to remove a separation board because the pan was too large. The water heater was in a compartment and they had to remove the whole side to put the pan in since it was was too big to fit in that little compartment. So, now we have to fix that and we still have to replace a board because they had to remove it completely. But other than that, the performance of the water heater has been okay.

I had to call AHS just to get a company to come to my house. The service guy just left and on top of the $100 Service Fee it was going to cost me an additional $300 - $400 to have me AC serviced with Freon. So this service call was $100 for the Service Fee, at least $300 to have my unit serviced with Freon, and then add in the $600 for the warranty - this company used to be solid - now if you need your AC serviced you better get ready to dig into your bank account because they charge you for the fee and then the company will charge $100 a pound for Freon. If only I had known this last month before I renewed my contract with AHS.

The two techs they've sent so far have been good. Most recently I called a claim in and the reps were nice, cooperative and pleasant. I was happy because they helped me right away and I needed it right away. I'm glad I changed my home warranty provider to AHS. My previous one wasn't direct where I could understand. I'm old, so I needed clearer understanding and that's one thing I got from AHS. I'm trying to get my daughter to sign up with them now.

We had an electrician come out to fix a switch for our garbage disposal and everything went great. We called AHS, set up the service, and they had somebody out in a couple days. He was a good electrician and he got the work done quickly. The switch has been working fine since the repair and my wife and I are happy with it. All in all, AHS is worth the money and having the warranty beats having to pay hundreds of dollars for something that they can fix really quickly and at a cheap price. I recommend them to everybody I talk to.

We've had American Home Shield for about eight years. I've used them a lot and everything has been fine. When our upstairs AC wasn't working, I thought it was probably a cooling issue, but it turned out to be a computer issue. The claim submission with American Home Shield was quick and easy. The contractor they sent found the problem, fixed it quickly and the AC has been working perfectly ever since. He did a good job. It's just been a good experience as advertised and I'd recommend them.

The pool suction wasn’t working well and the spa pump wasn’t pumping into the pool well either. At first the techs sent by AHS said they didn’t do spa pumps, but according to the lady we spoke with, it's covered because it’s attached to the pool, not a separate hot tub. It was Friday and they came back and worked on it on Monday. So over the weekend, I couldn’t run the pool because the spa motor was gone. I wasn’t here when the tech finished, so I had to call AHS and it took me three days to get a hold of the tech. He said he was going to call me back, but he didn’t. I said, “You just fixed this back together but I don’t know if I can run the pool. I don’t want to start it if I’m not supposed to.” He said, “Oh yeah. You can run it.” It wasn’t running for five days. It was hot, so we were building up algae and the chlorine wasn’t circulating.

There was a leak at the connection where the motor connects to, so I told AHS it had a leak and the tech came back. After he left, that same pump was making a weird noise. So I called AHS again in about two days to get a hold of him. I texted him because he wouldn’t answer my calls. I said, “It’s making this screeching noise.” I even reported it and sent it on the text. He called me back and said, “That’s the bearing on that pump. And that’s not covered but I can do it for you for $105.” But in the home inspection, it listed that thing as leaking, and it still is.

Over the years, AHS has generally been okay. They call to schedule within hours, and then we schedule it a couple of days ahead. One thing I didn’t notice then, because the techs have always fixed things in the past, is that this time, the tech was gone and there was no invoice saying that they were finished or what they did. But we had a plumbing issue around the same time and the guy came really soon, fixed it and left an invoice. So I knew what he fixed.

I had an issue with my stove that just clicked and the people sent by American Home Shield supposedly fixed it a couple of months ago, but it wasn’t fixed right. I have Monogram Appliances and AHS sends people out that are not Monogram-certified. I wait a couple of days for the people to come out but then they tell me that they can’t do anything. I then make another appointment with the people that can actually fix them. I’m just wasting time when I have to schedule the appointment and I have to wait again. And if I try to call AHS, it’s a never-ending hold. It takes forever for somebody to pick up. Nonetheless, the interactions I’ve had with the technicians sent out to my home have been fine. AHS has been timely and it’s nice to know that if something breaks, they can come and fix it, so it has been a good experience.

I called American Home Shield on Wednesday for an issue that I was having with the central air conditioning. I've had a previous claim with AHS and I had no problems with that one. The technicians who came out were very professional. But, this time, I haven't had anyone come out to service the issue that I called AHS about, so the issue still hasn't been resolved, and it would be seven days tomorrow since I first called them about this issue. They told me on Friday that the contractor, 72 Degrees, would be calling me within 24 to 48 hours, but I called this company on Monday and they didn't even have a work order to come and see me. So, I called AHS back yesterday and they said they will resend the work order.

When no one ever called me to set up an appointment, I called AHS again this morning and the rep I spoke to told me that she would try to find another agency. Every time I called and let AHS know that the issue hasn't been resolved, I was told that I had to wait 24 to 48 hours for a return call from the contractor. The company that came out for the previous issue would now be coming back for the air conditioning issue. I'd tell friends to look for another warranty company.

I had two faucets. One was leaking through the wall into the garage and the other one had water shooting out of it. I had to submit the claim on the phone because American Home Shield had no option online to explain what was going on. My interaction with American Home Shield's rep went very well but it was horrible with the tech who came out. He didn’t do anything. I turned off the water at the main div and he said that if we want to fix the faucet with water spewing from it, we have to break through the wall to take it out and American Home Shield doesn’t cover that so I'm screwed. For the other faucet, he cut a hole in the wall. The first one was a rock wall but the second one was a drywall. He looked at it and he said that he can’t see anything. He told me to just call American Home Shield and they’ll fix this. He left and that was it. But he still set out in his car for half an hour after he left.

I called American Home Shield and told them that they don't need to pay the contractor because he did absolutely nothing. Their rep asked me to call the company and find out directly what could be done to solve this. I called the company three times and each time the rep would say that the tech who came out will call me back. But, the tech never called me back. Finally, the rep said that she's tired of hearing from me so she gave me the tech’s number. I called the tech and he said that there’s a little thing that I can buy which I could screw on to the faucet and it will stop the problem because it has its own little control valve.

I went to Home Depot and Lowe's to see if I could get this and I had several people in both stores trying to figure out what the tech was talking about. They went through the whole plumbing department trying to help me. They finally said that they really don’t know what the tech was talking about. They said that if I can get the tech to give me the nomenclature, the specific name of the piece, then they might be able to help me.

I called the tech back and I told him that nobody knows what he's talking about. I asked for the specific nomenclature and he said that it’s on Amazon.com. I told him that it still doesn’t help me and asked him to give me the specific nomenclature. He said that he'll just order it for me so I asked when he'll get this done so I know when to expect him. And he said that he probably shouldn’t do that and that I need to order it myself. I told him to just give me the nomenclature and he said that he'll text it to me but I never heard a word from him.

I called back American Home Shield and I told them what happened. But I’m not gonna argue with somebody on the customer service line because they really can’t do anything. It just makes everybody upset and nobody gets anything done. This needs to be elevated to a supervisor level. Still, American Home Shield's people were nice on the phone. However, they just didn't get anything fixed.

He said something about the heat that's not going to the top and the tank not being hot enough. Also, somehow the wires on the calorifier got to be connected together and not hang out because they could light up and that’s not safe to do it that way. When he was trying to see the problem, he said that on the inside, the tank ain’t no good. He said he was gonna have to order another tank because that tank cannot be fixed.

My oven was overheating. I would set it for 375 and it would almost lock me out, and it’d be so hot you couldn’t touch it and would burn up everything. It was a fire hazard, so we had to stop using the oven. And so after the contractors, that American Home Shield sent out, came, they had to order the part and then they came back. The overheating was an intermittent problem and since the repair, the oven has stayed where I set it, so it’s a good thing.

I never had an issue with anybody that AHS sent here. They were always respectful of the house and they came in and did what they had to do and they left. But when they come out, they don’t know what part is needed and you have to wait on it, which is an inconvenience. They should have more parts on the truck so that they could take care of the issue on their first visit. Other than that, they’ve never been unprofessional or nasty. We've had AHS for a while now and I recommend them. I like them a lot because I've had some other awful warranties that I've gotten rid of.

I love American Home Shield. I’ve never had an issue getting somebody out to fix anything and I continue to renew my contract. I submit a claim online and it’s easy. I always get a callback immediately from whatever vendor they assign or put it out to. My most recent issue was with my dishwasher. It was continuing to refill with water and then overflowing on to my floor. The guy that came out was just nice as he could be, took care of it quickly and was able to do it the first visit, which isn’t always the case sometimes. In the past the contractors have sometimes had to come out, look at it, order a part and then come back. But the guy didn’t have to do that. Also, I never had an issue with something not working after the contractors repair my appliances. It’s always been very well done.

It would be helpful if when you submit the claim AHS finds out a little something that’s going on with it. Because sometimes the contractors won’t have a part on their truck just because they don’t even know what the issue is. Getting a little more information about what's going on might make it a little more efficient on the process, not just what appliance it is.

If they can’t get me an answer, I’m gonna go to the Better Business Bureau and then to the FTC because they can’t charge me a tax on a check. They put a bad taste in my mouth with that but otherwise, they're always good. They use reliable companies and I’m always telling people about 'em.

When my dishwasher and my microwave went out, I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online. From then, it took about three weeks for the technician to come out. The experience wasn't bad but the whole thing could have been improved. The technician brought a circuit card out for the dishwasher and about a month later he came back and installed the circuit card. If they could have just done everything at once, it would have helped out a lot. But it was like a step-by-step procedure even though the same person came out each time, which indicated to me that he could have done it the first time.

It didn’t make any sense to me. I saw him standing right here and I saw him take a part out. It took him 15 seconds to take it out so it would have taken five minutes to put it back in. As for the microwave, it was too old and they didn’t make it anymore so I had to order a new one. American Home Shield gave me the money for that in about a month, and I ended up getting a smaller, cheaper one but it works.

It's 95 degree outside and upstairs is not usable due to the heat. AHS will only give me an estimated delivery of the compressor, not an actual date. Called American Home Shield numerous times and they continuously say that they will have a supervisor call us back. Supervisor never calls. Call wait times in excess of 45 minutes. Staff is not familiar with issue each time. Climate changed and now warmer weather - no air conditioning. Just learned, United Air Temp did not provide a diagnosis to American Home Shield. They were only interested in replacing the unit for $7,500 - paid directly to them. If United Air Temp provided a diagnosis to AHS, we could have examined next steps for repair/replacement.

We have not had heat or air from this unit for over 2 months and United Air Temp refuses to send a diagnosis to American Home Shield. American Home Shield taking no responsibility for service calls that have not amounted to a working unit. American Home Shield has offered a second opinion opportunity for another service fee, when in reality we should be reimbursed for the first call. WE DO NOT HAVE A WORKING UNIT. No air - room temps now in the 80s. AHS is suggesting that United Air Temp return and provide a diagnosis. United Air Temp is refusing to come out unless we want to purchase a new unit from them. I am not an expert to know what an AC repair modification could be or should be. Bottom line I did not get a warranty to still have to pay $2,000 for repair. I can try to understand the Freon, but the modifications is really bothering me. Please be careful because "if it is broke and cannot be fixed we replace at no charge" is not totally true.

My garbage disposal just stopped working but the guys said that it had stopped working over six months ago. And I don't know what criteria they used. They were unable to repair it so they had replaced the unit. However, American Home Shield refused to cover the replacement of the garbage disposal and they also charged me the service call. I demanded that they not charge me the $75 service call or take that off of the $329 that I had to pay the guys to replace the garbage disposal, but they would not do that.

And then right now, I have a claim for the ice maker. The fellow came out last week and determined that there is a frozen line, which is impeding the production of ice and he needed to order the part. He said he would call me when he has the part. My refrigerator also has a filter in it that filters the water and the refrigerator tells when the filter needs to be replaced. He insisted that when he comes back and I did not have any filter there then he would not do the work. So, I ordered the filters on Amazon, and they're quite expensive. Turns out, having a home warranty would not be as valuable as I thought it was gonna be.

The AC wasn't cooling in my home and it didn't seem like the compressor was kicking on. So, I submitted a claim to the American Home Shield website which was fairly simple to do. It was very well organized and it was easy to find the sections that you need to go to. Then, I had a technician scheduled within 48 hours of submitting the claim because I got it submitted on a weekend and all the AC shops were closed around me.

When the technician came out, he repaired a small leak in the AC, added a couple of pounds of Freon, and adjusted some lines inside that were loose and rattling on the condenser coil. He was very professional. He arrived on time and as scheduled based on the window that he gave me. He was also very polite and explained exactly what he was doing as he was repairing the unit and how long he was planning on being here to complete that repair. Then, he took my payment information for both the service fee for American Home Shield as well as the prorated amount for the Freon that was charged. American Home Shield pays $10 per pound, so I paid the difference based on what he was needing to put in the system. All in all, it was really easy to take care of everything.

There are a lot of online reviews that are either mixed negative or good about the warranties for home warranties. But this is the first claim that I ever had to file with a home warranty and it was very seamless and simple to do and I got my issue taken care of. Having a home warranty also saved me quite a bit of money with because I only wound up spending a few hundred on the Freon versus the $500 that I would have paid out of pocket for the repairs that were needed. So, the warranty essentially paid for itself already.

American Home Shield recently had to replace my cooktop, my wall oven, and the motor on my dishwasher. I submitted all those claims at the same time over the phone and the claims reps got a hold of the contractor. ACT Appliance was the contractor for the dishwasher and the cooktop and the ball oven were installed by the delivery company. The contractor wanted to come out and look, and it all went from there. He notified me that he had to order the parts. As soon as the parts came in, he was right here to put them in. My dishwasher has been working fine since the repair and my new cooktop is working okay. I’ve already referred quite a few people to American Home Shield.

My heating unit is old and Dawson Services, which American Home Shield sent, has been out about three times in reference to wires burned up. I like their service people. They got the problem fixed. There were some things that were unavoidable and we didn’t see, so they had to come back a couple of times on recalls. Then my AC unit went out. It was the electric heat pump and it was all one big unit. I called them out and they were telling me that the whole unit has burned up. This has been going on for about 10 to 14 days now. Dawson’s Electric was supposed to contact American Home Shield and call me back. I have called them about eight times and left messages every single time. I called them again today, but I got no answer and no calls back. I was calling American Home Shield because I'm not happy with any of that.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been great, but this is the first time I've ever had an episode. I understand Dawson is getting tired of that kind of stuff, but it's no excuse for somebody to call me back in reference to what they're gonna do with my unit. I’ve been dealing with them for 10 to 14 days now, and it's either they come fix it or replace it. They won't even call me and say, “Hey, this is what we've got.” I worked in the plumbing industry for years with American Home Shield and my father owned two companies so I understand how the whole system works and this is abnormal. Other than that when I've had plumbing problems American Home Shield has done a good job on getting a service guy out there. I would recommend them.

My washing machine was leaking and wasn’t draining properly. It was also tearing up our clothes. I went online to American Home Shield to submit the claim and it was easy. I had called and asked previously about the coverage. That was months and months ago and I had waited on hold for over an hour. When I have called, the reps have been friendly but sometimes the hold time is ridiculous. The contractor that was sent out to fix the washing machine was very friendly and professional, and the washing machine has worked perfect since the repair. On the other hand, I had some prior claims through Lone Star Plumbing and I couldn’t really say good things about them. The issue with Lone Star Plumbing wasn’t really resolved. I feel like I was told several different things by them and they were a little dishonest.

I had recently purchased a home but it had no hot water, so I called American Home Shield’s phone number to submit a claim. It was a very quick phone call and the reps were helpful and good and they answered my questions. However, I had a timing issue. I had to wait days for the contractors to come out here. Nevertheless, the contractor was helpful. He knew what he was doing, answered my questions, walked me through, and explained why the system worked. He did a good job and it is a lot better now, although I'm not a hundred percent with it. I gotta let the hot water running through the sink first so that it comes a lot faster and I still have to let it run before I can get in the shower, so I am still using up a lot of water. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield.

From the online service till I got my email, I had to wait four working days because of the company. The contractor was not flexible about the timing to arrange a meeting. They took too long but once they had arranged for the meeting, they came then everything was fine. They covered some issues and they did a good job. Overall, I have two big issues with AHS. One, if you don’t use the online system and try to call them, it’s impossible to get them on the phone easily, wait time is very long. Second, their coverage for air conditioning is unacceptable. They only cover for a ridiculous portion of the Freon cost. If Freon cost $300, $400, $500, $600, they cover $60.

The microwave stopped working and we couldn't get any water and ice from our refrigerator. We have the type that has the freezer on the side and the water and ice cubes on the door and it wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and the representative was very helpful. Within 24 to 48 hours, we had set up an appointment for someone to come out.

I asked the contractors about what were they doing and they seemed very helpful. They answered my question, so for the most part, we had good communication. They said it would be too much to fix the microwave so we bought it. They sent some recommendations to us and we ordered and upgraded. And for the refrigerator, they said that they could fix it and the technician said they were gonna replace the refrigerator door.

But when people come, they don't give any kind of paper work. The last man that came gave me paperwork, but the person that came prior to that didn't have any paperwork as to what they did. I like to keep track of what I have done to things around the house. When my kids asked me, "What did the person do?", I said, "He came out and did something for the toilet." But if I had some paperwork, I can show them. I would think that the people who come out to do the work would give me a work order that something was done.

Nevertheless, it is a good thing that we found out about AHS. They charge you a fee every time somebody comes but if they have to do some work, a lot of people just deduct that or add that to whatever you have to have done. Also, being able to pay a monthly charge is a great thing. I had to get our air conditioning unit down in my basement and I paid $4,000. But if I had had AHS, they would have fixed it. And if they couldn't fix it, then they'd replace it.

I submitted three claims to American Home Shield all at the same time and initially, it was not a problem but after I called them up because nothing was dealt with, I found out later that all but one of them was cancelled. The people were friendly and dealing with them was fine. But mostly, the problem was around the strategy for picking vendors to come in and fix the equipment. One time, it went all the way back to the person that they said don't fix that kind of thing. So, it went all the way around three or four people to work out there. The contractor who fixed the appliance was friendly and courteous. He got in, found the problem very quickly, got the part ordered and came in to fix it immediately. He always kept in contact too, which was good. Since the repair, the item has been working fine.

With the other two claims, we got one certainly to go through. They had the guy come out and try to fix it and he diagnosed the problem. The board was bad and apparently, the replacement board was bad too. So now, they have to go for a rebuild. I wanted the thing fixed but they kept offering a cash-out which doesn't replace the item. If you're gonna cash it out, then cash it out with the money it takes to replace the item, not with what it cost for the board. Their replacement process is not working right and it's not where I would like it to be. They also need to understand that for guys like myself, we're dealing with this kind of stuff, their wives are at home. When we get home, they're not happy and it just makes it double the compound problem.

The first time I called American Home Shield for a stuffed up line, they sent a guy out from Genius Plumbing. He looked around the house, couldn't find a clean out and said the only way to do it is to go on the roof or knock out a wall to one of the up vents and put in a clean out. But it would cost $380 to do that. I, however, didn't think I would need to spend that kind of money just to do a clean out. So he said, "Let me go check on something and I'll be right back." He went to his truck and next thing I knew, he was gone. He didn't even say he was leaving or let me sign anything. I told AHS about it. They said that they were sorry and they did what they were supposed to do but I still had to be charged $75 fee for the service when I didn't get any. I was very upset.

I then did the work myself and got the access to the downsized pipe for the drain clean out in it in the laundry room. I opened the wall up, made it, and then repaired the wall. It took me about an hour and about $30 worth of materials to do it. I then called American Home Shield and told them I needed the work done. They sent the same company out but a different guy, and this time, there was no charge. Fifteen minutes later, it was done. It's all taken care of and I'm happy with it now.

Due to the fact that it is over thirty years old, we were concerned about whether or not everything in the house was working, etc. like we were told or if we were going to spend our lifetime savings fixing one thing after another. Our realtor assured us that AHS is the very best home warranty company available and anything we found to be in non-working order would be fixed by AHS. Well, we haven't had that experience. It seems that everything in the house was either in horrible shape and needed fixed or they needed to be replaced. AHS has come up with one excuse after another why nothing is covered! We paid an entire year's fee for the best plan available when we purchased our house, but that didn't matter. They still take our service fees and then tell us our problem is not covered. This company needs to be shut down!

I've got something like 5 months left on my contract and I'm ready to just throw in the towel, write it off as a complete loss and just hire quality, local service providers on my own. I've spent months trying to get them to complete 2 simple repairs. In both cases, I'm onto my second contractor with them and in both cases, neither repair is complete. Again, it's been MONTHS.

There have been a dozen service calls for these 2 repairs and even though the repair can never seem to be completed for some reason or another (they don't have the part, they need a different part, they brought the wrong part, they have to get AHS approval, etc.) they still charge me $125 per visit - EVEN when nothing is actually done. Yes, they've charged me for repairs that have NOT been completed. Then I have to call them, explain what happened, try to sort it all out and fight with them over the service charges - I'm currently disputing $500 worth of service charges they will not credit me for!

The most recent problem was a problem with the dishwasher leaking. It was going on for about a week, getting progressively worse. I submitted the claim over the phone and it took a little while to get through. I was on hold for a little while, but once I got through, it was really quick. They took all the information down and repeated it back to me to make sure they had it all right.

The contractor sent by AHS was great. He found the problem and fixed it. He ran the dishwasher through a few cycles, it was throwing out some other error codes and he ran all of those to ground and corrected them. He was really thorough and explained everything in great detail and easy to understand terms. Now the dishwasher's working fine. It has stopped leaking and is not leaving a puddle underneath it.

They never actually sent the part after 10 days and I had to call them to remind them to do their job. After the part arrived it did not do the trick and they ended up coming back out to find it needed another part.

My repair is in limbo now and 4 times I have called AHS, two of which I have sat on hold for over 30 minutes before their telephone system disconnected me. The other two times the person on the other end had no answers and said I need to speak with someone not there. I will absolutely never recommend them and would never do business with them again. The only thing they can do on time is collect money. I’ve been using American Home Shield for an extremely long time through at least two houses. This house is at least since 2004 and my previous house was seven years before that. Mostly, I submit my claims online and since they let me pay for it in advance, I’m really happy. The website is fairly simple and they have a “go right to it” button so, I use that. Usually, the contractor contacts us within the 24 hours that they say they’re going to and I have never had any of them go out of that. The dishwasher wasn’t heating up when it was supposed to during its heat cycle and when the contractor came to diagnose the problem, it was a pleasant interaction. The guy was nice and he even put on those little booties so he wouldn’t scratch the floor.

Usually, they show up and figure out what the problem is and then they get the parts ordered and then they come back. But Appliance Express, who was the last set of people who came, called us in advance to find out what the problem was, and they brought all the parts, which was really great. I like the way they handled it. They said it reduces callback and it only costs them a restocking fee sometimes because most of the time, they can use the parts elsewhere. The other guys were not bad and did what they had to do. I can understand it but it would be nice if more of them would contact us and ask us what’s wrong and possibly get the appliance numbers in advance. Mostly, I’ve been extremely happy with the service I get from AHS. They always send somebody who fix my problems and I move on. Also, the price is reasonable. I’m good with them. They are as reliable as what other people say and I have recommended them.

I paid $100 when they came out to do something for my pool and I'm a little upset. I have a huge fountain feature on my pool and I have two motors. The only way to turn my fountain and my light on is with a remote system. That's the circulatory system on my pool also. That didn't work anymore so the only thing the guy could do while he was here was literally wire my fountain to the circuit breakers. So now, I have to turn the circuit breaker on and off, which is against the building code, but it was the best we could do. Despite that, I would still recommend American Home Shield. When I had an appliance claim for my refrigerator, we did it all online with a click of a button and Valleywide came out. They got here on time and did a great job. We've been using American Home Shield for about a month. Whenever I submitted a claim with them, they say, “Okay. We’ll be out,” And next thing, the contractors set a time and they show up. I’m satisfied with the work, the appointments, and the responsibility. The contractors have been out here two or three times on it but they’ve been very responsive. They get here on time and they’re a bunch of good guys. The only thing is for whatever reason they can’t figure out our refrigerator. Sometimes it dispenses water and sometimes it won’t. Sometimes it dispenses ice and sometimes it won’t. We’ve had the temperature set at 42 in because it freezes. Out of nowhere, it will freeze everything in there. And then the next day they will all fall out. It’s just totally inconsistent.

We still haven't got it figured out. The first time they came out, they thought it might be the whole left side of the refrigerator. The whole door disperses water and ice. And when they came back out, they came for another part, thinking it was something different. In and out, after they left, it quit dispersing water and ice. So, they came back out again. They adjusted the doors a little bit this time, that maybe the seals would be more of our problem and the seals might be tighter. But since then, it stopped working for a half a day yesterday and then this morning it’s working. They said that they’re coming back again and they’re not charging us for a reservice. That’s good. They charged us one time, the deductible $75 or whatever they call it. And since then, they have not charged us anything. They just keep coming back.
