DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We have been without air conditioning for two weeks with a small baby in the house, and it has been over 90 degrees almost every day. When we first contacted AHS, the first company they assigned to us never showed up, answered or returned any of our phone calls. We couldn’t even leave a message because their “mailbox was full”. It then took 3 more days for another company to come out. I was told the part needed had been ordered that following Monday, but when I called for an update (because I did not receive a call with an update when I was told I would) I was told the part hadn’t even been ordered yet.

It was then finally ordered that Wednesday (or so I’m told) which was a full week after the company came to diagnose the problem. In that time, I was hung up on, put on hold for 55 mins before being disconnected, and was supposed to receive calls from supervisors twice and was never followed up with. I feel used, lied to, and completely taken advantage of. If I can keep one person from being taken advantage of as I was, I would consider this review successful. What’s the point of having a warranty when nothing gets fixed.

    Hi Ashley,

I understand your concerns with the service request that was placed to have your air conditioner system repaired. There are a number of concerns that I read from the hold time to the delay in service during the peak of summer. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issue resolved.

My wife informed me of a plumbing leak last week. She was outside watering the flowers in the backyard and noticed water dripping down from directly below the master shower and running down the brick wall. I checked our AHS contract and found that broken/leaking pipes are contractually covered, so I filed a claim.

The plumber came out on Monday and I had already run tests over the weekend to narrow down the cause of the leak. The leak ceased while the system was pressurized so the supply lines were good. I ran 20 gallons of water through the drain and still no leak. Turning the shower on, the leak appeared 20 seconds later. This limited the possibility to only a few soldered joints that are all behind the tiled wall.

While the plumber was there, he found that the elbow where the shower head connects inside the wall was completely corroded, and the threading had gaps from the corrosion, so a new elbow was required. Everything was great up until this points; technician arrived on-time, diagnosed the issue correctly, and had come up with an action plan to resolve it. The problem occurred when the plumber was getting ready to make the repair. He needed to remove a part of the wall to expose enough of the wall to make the repair. Because of this, he called his boss to get approval as another company would have to come repair the wall. After speaking with his boss, he told me it was going to cost $150 extra because they had to cut the pipe... This is where I got pissed.

He stated that AHS considers any pipe cuts as a "water modification" and they do NOT cover them. He told me he fights with AHS on this issue all the time and that every time a customer has an actual leak, they get charged an extra $150. This was ridiculous to me, as the part being replaced only costs around $3. I sent the plumber home and told him I was not going to pay $150 and that I was going to follow up with AHS. According to the contact, the verbiage clearly states (Section F, Item 4 PLUMBING) "COVERED ITEMS - Leaks and breaks of water, drain, gas, waste, or vent lines -..." This directly contradicts what I was told. It is impossible to fix a broken pipe or leaking pipe, to code, without cutting it and using new fittings. The only exception I could think of is a loose connector.

I reached out to AHS Customer Service and they did not provide any assistance. They stated that the diagnosis was not submitted by the plumber at the time so there was nothing that could be done. I asked if the $70 could be refunded because they refused to repair a covered item, and AHS said this was completely non-refundable regardless of diagnosis and if any work was done...Our conversation ended with no ticket number for callback, just an empty request for me to follow up, again, for AHS's lack of follow-through. I previously had a different home warranty company and I have never had this kind of grief.

I have been with AHS about 10, fortunately for our family we haven’t had to call AHS for too many issues. I called in a request Friday 6/1/18. Our AC unit was out, mind you I live in Las Vegas. I asked if AHS gave anything toward buying a portable AC unit so we wouldn’t suffer as much, I was told no and that my recall AC will be scheduled soon. I did get a call back about ten minutes later, granting me a one time small reimbursement. Saturday 6/2/18 tech comes out. Determines the compressor is out. June 3rd tech sends his diagnosis 2:30 pm. June 3 I call early in the morning to check on the progress. The representative that was rude and short and advise me that since tech send it through email and not call in, it has not been looked at.

I then asked if I can speak to her supervisor and she put me back in the call queue, had to wait another 30 minutes and of course the representative I had spoken to earlier never documented my call so I couldn’t even make a complaint on her lack of professionalism. I was not told my work order was in the authorization department. It’s now Thursday 6/7/18. I call this morning and was told now it’s in the purchasing department but for some strange reason the compressor has not been purchased.

The rep Ashley put me on hold to speak to purchasing department. After a long while she comes back and informs me she is still holding and will call me back. I never did get a call back so I call again. I’m now told it’s been purchased, so I call the company to has been assigned to me. They are behind. The earliest I can get my unit up and running is 6/10/18. That means I will have no AC for a total of 9 days, with above 100 degrees days and to top it off I was given 3 fax numbers to fax my receipt which one didn’t even go through. What a joke. Horrible services.

I reported the central air conditioner not working. AHS said they would contact an HVAC company which they did and when it got late afternoon I contacted the HVAC company and they stated it was outside their service area and never bothered to call me. When I called American Home Shield I was informed it had to be turned over to a separate section of the company to find another technician. I found out it might take 24 hours. The problem is that it is almost 90 degrees. I have policies on two houses and this is my first request for service. I am not impressed.

Updated on 06/11/2018: The nightmare continues, I have already done one review. I own a cabin in the North Georgia Mountains and the air stopped cooling. I requested service on Wed 6/5/18. AHS did assign a company the next day. Unfortunately the company was in Tunnel Hill Ga near Dalton and I am in Mineral Bluff Ga near Blue Ridge. After waiting too late afternoon and no contact I called the HVAC company and they informed me it was outside their service area. Why did AHS not check this out prior to assigning this company to fix my air? I called AHS and was told I had two options, they could find someone else if I jumped through all these hoops or they would find some other company. I chose the latter because I thought it would be easier. I was wrong.

After many hours I called AHS again and said it is very hot and I need my air fixed. She informed me that we had to give the section at AHS 24 hours to find someone else for repairs. I said that is unacceptable but hung up and called back and got permission to hire a company which was on my same street. After I did this I received a call from AHS saying they had a company in Calhoun which would come and repair my air. I asked the rep from AHS to have them call me and they did today Mon 6/11/18. The lady was very nice and said that AHS had canceled the appointment but she was following up to make sure we had been taken care of.

Of course this is not what I told the AHS rep to do. The local HVAC company that I contacted on my own came out the next day and repaired the central air and would have come out the same day except it was so late in the day after trying to deal with AHS. The total bill including refrigerant was $223. The bill from AHS would have been at least $155, a difference of $68 which I don’t know if I am going to get refunded because I did not jump through their hoops. Oh by the way I was informed that AHS only pays $10 towards refrigerant which costs $55 to $80. Thank goodness I only needed one pound. In short not happy at all.

It was easy to navigate through the AHS website. And when I submitted a claim for the replacement of the hot water heater, they just asked me to turn in the receipt and make sure that the plumber was licensed. So, I wrote his license number and his phone number. It was filed good. However, he was a disaster! He lied to me. He is a big fraud and when he came, he said that not only do I have to replace the water heater, but I also have to replace five other things. I am an engineer myself and I told him there was no need to do that. But he said they will not replace the water heater unless I replace those things that will cost me $600. That was a complete rip-off and I hope that AHS won't engage this plumber anymore. It will bring down their reputation. Also, the owner of the contractor company called me and told me that they don't agree with me. Then, I told AHS and asked if they could give me a cash-out, which they did but I haven't got the money yet.

I submit claims by the phone because I’d rather talk to somebody than do it on the computer. When my hot water heater went out, I had to have a new one and I was without hot water for about a month. But that was more my fault than anyone else. I was out of town for a while. But when the contractor came in, they put paper down on the carpet so they wouldn’t get anything on that and they installed it in an hour and a half. That was all that it took them to do it and they were very professional and courteous. It was great. I had hot water in an hour. American Home Shield paid for most of it and then I had to pay for some things that weren’t covered.

So far, I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield. I re-did it this year and I also had them last year. Right in the middle of the storm Harvey last year, I had a whole bunch of people here staying with me because their house was flooded and my garbage disposal went out. I had put a whole bunch of carrots down there, not realizing that it couldn’t chew them all up. But I had to call the technician back out because that wasn’t the problem. It had a crack in the back and it kept leaking so I called them back and they sent the guy back. That ended up with him having to get a new garbage disposal.

I'm very proud of American Home Shield and all my experiences with them have been very positive. I'm glad that I have the coverage and I recommend them to anybody. An average person does not realize it and thinks that it's big bucks where they pay a little bit each month. But in case something broke, you don’t have to start a hole in your stomach and try to get a second mortgage. With American Home Shield, call them and they fix it. You go on and they save you a lot of money. It's a very good investment for anybody.

One time, American Home Shield sent out a guy to fix my garage door. The guy was very unprofessional. I told that to American Home Shield and they sent someone else out. The new guy was very professional and took care of my garage door. American Home Shield listened to my complaint about who came out. They corrected and addressed the complaint right away. They never gave one word different. They were very good.

Then on a recent claim, the washer went through a cycle, got to where it showed 13 and it stopped. The clothes were still soaking wet so I had to push on the appliance, turn it back on, do a spin dry to dump all the water, and then put them in the dryer. Also, it was leaking. It had thrown off a lot of water so it wet everything else. Turned out, it was a hose down. It's under warranty and it's worn out or busted. The guy from EaZy Appliance came out and he was very professional. He’s an old timer and he obviously did the job quite often. He knew exactly what he got to do and he did it. I was impressed with his knowledge. I was thinking that we got to get another washer, but it was not the case at all. So far, the washer seemed to be working.

I logged on to the portal on the website and filled in the questionnaire and submitted it. Usually, they would send a text message that I’m gonna get a call within 24 hours which I do and we set a date. Since they fixed the ice maker, I have no issues. Aside from that, I have issues with my AC system that I'm still waiting for them to come. However, I can’t complain. The fridge had a relay problem. Also, the dishwasher's board went out and there was another problem with the dishwasher. The tech came out and diagnosed the problem. The only complaint I have is that he had to come back multiple times because he had to get approval from American Home Shield for getting the parts or for replacing the dishwasher with a new one, but I was charged $100 for a service call each time he came out, instead of being charged one time for the repair of the dishwasher and the fridge. It was the same repair job and if he didn’t have the part that he needed, then he should have waited until he got the part before he came back out. On the other hand, the appliances are both working since the repair. I also liked the contractor and my experience with American Home Shield has been cool so far.

When I got home, the AC wasn’t working. It was hot in the house. I went around downstairs in the basement and checked the system. I wasn’t getting anything to it. I also went outside to check the condensers and it didn’t look like they were running. So I submitted a claim to American Home Shield to have someone come and take a look at the AC. I set up the appointment through the online system. I got an email back saying that somebody will contact me. And then, the local HVAC company sent me a text message that they will be coming out the next day to take a look at the AC.

I wasn't there when the tech came but my wife was there. The tech showed up and told my wife who he was. I’d already let her know that the tech was coming and she showed him where the systems were. He went out and it was actually a tripped breaker on the line that I didn’t know existed. He checked the breaker and then he went back inside to make sure everything is working right. He also checked the filters and that was it. The breaker tripped one time since the repair but now that I know it's there, I just went out and hit the breaker.

I’ve used American Home Shield in the past on a couple of rental properties. I was really happy with the fact that I could call them and they’d send somebody out there and take a look at the problem. I didn’t have to worry too much. The only negative was I have a rental property that has a Jacuzzi tub and they said that they don’t work on Jacuzzi brand products. I got a motor that was out and nobody would fix it so I had to buy everything outright which I didn’t understand why they were particular with that brand.

When the outside part of the AC stopped working I initially submitted the claim online with American Home Shield and it was very easy. The appointment that it gave me was four days to have someone come look at the AC. And with it being Texas, I had called to see if there was any way they could get somebody out sooner and the person that I spoke to was really amazing. He put me on hold and called several different places trying to get someone to come out sooner. He made a very good effort but it was the busy time of year and everybody was just booked so that was all they could do. The people I talked to were very helpful, friendly and went above and beyond.

Also, the man A-US Air Conditioning sent out did a very good job. He was very friendly. He told me if there were any more problems within the next three days, to give him a call on his cell phone. He said, “Even if it’s Sunday night, give me a call and I’ll come check it out and make sure everything’s good.” The AC has been great since he came out. American Home Shield is a really smart investment because you never know what can go wrong, and it could be something major that you’re not gonna have the money out of pocket but you generally in most circumstances just have to pay the $75 service call and then it will be taken care of.

I asked him if he could just tell me what he did to the unit and if he fixed it or not. He said the leaking has stopped and he replaced the exit valve. I was like, “Great. He told me exactly what he had to do but they had to order two parts and when one came in, they called me and let me know. The other one was back-ordered and when it came in, they called again and asked me if they could come. The man came in and took care of the dishwasher, and now it's working fantastic.

I was a landlord for a long time in Virginia and I had a very large home. I've had American Home Shield for eight to ten years and they have been reliable. Plus, the reps have been excellent. I called and made a claim on a Saturday and the contractor called me right back. They had a busy day but they fit us in.

They put us in at the last appointment and I was thankful because my mother is elderly and grouchy when she doesn’t have her AC. I also have a sister with cerebral palsy, so it can be bad when I do not have the AC. The contractor was quick, efficient, and extremely friendly. Also, my AC was cleaned out when it was fixed, which was an extra thing and I was not charged. The AC was fixed quickly and they got here a lot earlier than they told me originally. I have recommended Home Shield to friends and family. I tell them that they should use AHS because they are professional and quick in their response. Literally, it is in seconds that I get a response back.

When we had an air-conditioner problem, the contractor had to come out and diagnose the AC and see which parts are needed to replaced which have to be ordered through American Home Shield. But American Home Shield only pays for putting the fluids back in. The people that did the work was great, but the lady that scheduled the service was uncooperative.

Then the ice maker on our refrigerator was not working properly, so we filed another claim for it. The representatives that we spoke to were great. The contractor they sent was very personable. He had to order parts for the repair and came back in four days for the actual repair. The ice maker has been working great ever since. Overall, our experience with American Home Shield has been pretty good.

He came in, introduced himself, went and looked at the problem, and he figured out it wasn't getting enough fuse to it. It was the breaker so they took care of that and they even washed it out. It’s very cool now.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield when my dryer was not working and the whole thing went really well. The contractor who came out was very pleasant, friendly and clean. He looked up the dryer, found the problem and let me know that they'd have to order a part. He couldn't get it fixed that day but I suspected that was gonna be the case anyway so I was fine with that. It took five or six days and in that time, I was just air-drying everything. But as soon as the part came in, they called me. They got back out there and my dryer is great now. Also, I had paid the deductible when I scheduled the original appointment and I liked that I didn't have to pay the repair guy. Although I'm not very good with doing things online, I wasn't confused when I used the website so it was good and user-friendly. I was very happy with the entire experience and I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I am now dealing with a second claims issue with American Home Shield (AHS). I should have left after my previous claim issue was handled (with me coughing up $150 to finally get someone to do their job). My current claim involves my freezer not working properly. Chain of Events: Repairman came to my home and explained the fan needed to be replaced. ONE WEEK LATER, the repairman came and replaced the fan. A few days later I noticed the items in my freezer were softening. I turned the freezer to its highest setting. One day later, ice cream was seeping out of my freezer. I called AHS immediately. 2 WEEKS LATER the repairman came back to my home and told me the refrigerator needs Freon, but someone else would have to perform the job.

It has been 3 days since then and nobody has contacted me or come to my home to perform the repair. I called the repairman to check when they would be sending someone over to fill the Freon. The repairman responded by saying AHS is refusing to change the compressor. NO ONE EVER MENTIONED TO ME THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE COMPRESSOR. I immediately called AHS and was informed that the compressor was apparently bad due to negligence on my part. The repairman has now claimed that he asked me to turn off the refrigerator.

If the repairman had actually requested I turn off my refrigerator, I would have. Why would I want to waste electricity on an appliance that was not working? In addition, turning off the refrigerator would require me to get behind the appliance, how would they expect me to move a refrigerator by myself (I am 5’2” and over 50 years of age)? I do not understand why the repairman would not just turn off my refrigerator while he was at my home if it in fact needed to be turned off. To top it all off, AHS stated they have to take the repairman’s word that I was supposedly negligent. Well I did some research, and it seems I am not the only one dealing with these liars.

This is our second time to use our home warranty. The first time, it took over 6 weeks for our oven to be fixed- I have a family of 6 in my home. Three things needed to replaced, and we kept getting jumped back and forth between the contractor and AHS. What each group was telling us was completely opposite. Now, we have had a broken dishwasher for almost 9 weeks. The first contractor they sent kept saying parts were sent broken and he couldn't fix it. SO we requested a new guy.

The new guy replaced 5 parts, and the dishwasher still won't work. He couldn't convince AHS to replace it, so he replaced the remaining parts of the dishwasher and it STILL won't work- apparently that's what it takes to get a new appliance. Again, we have a family of 6. This is unbelievable. Now we have to wait yet again to see if they let us replace our appliance with a new one and we've been told that we will have to pay for an upgrade because our appliance is stainless steel. This is crazy long to have to wait for things to be fixed. I do not see how this is beneficial whatsoever. Surely this can't be normal. Who on earth would pay for something that you have to wait this long for? We have called repeatedly too and I we are just sent in circles and told this is normal.

If I could rate zero stars I would. Our first couple experiences with this business has been a mess. After a full day of not being able to make contact with anyone by phone ("due to systems being down") we finally received a call back to fix our stove. We communicated two issues ((1) burners wouldn't turn on and (2) the exhaust fan was not working) - the technician comes out and literally spends 5 min looking at the stove and states that he doesn't know how to fix. After a $75 charge and now I'm working on the stove and manage to fix item #1 on my own.

We call American Home Shield back to schedule someone to fix the other issue and now they tell us it will be another $75 charge because the person who took the notes on our first call did not label that there were two issues. So after all of this - I fix issue #1 on my own, pay a $75 for nothing and now I need to pay an additional $75 for someone to come out and fix the second issue? This is either a big joke or a fraud - either way I will make sure to tell everyone I can to not use this company.

I submitted a claim 3 days ago for a pipe leak in the bathroom, someone came today, took some pictures. And another pipe leak in the basement, they also took some pictures. And right after the contractor left, my case was marked as completed. I was surprised, there is no resolution given and the case was marked as completed. What is going on?

I called American Home Shield, transferred several times, was told my case is pending, the website is not accurate. I re-opened the case, it was showing in American Home Shield website, then after 30 minutes, I checked back, the new case I opened disappeared from their website. Then someone called me, they said the first leak in the bathroom is not covered, and the second leak doesn't exist (this is wrong, it is obviously leaking). If I want to get a second opinion, I have to pay $75 to have another assigned contractor come, it would be their "approved" contractor. To me, American Home Shield is a completely scam, they tried to get your money, while nothing got repaired. I will need to cancel my membership, or maybe file a small claim with the court for this.

I typically submit my claims with American Home Shield by calling in. I had a great experience with the AC claim I filed with them. The AC guys did great. They came out the next day and fixed stuff right on the spot. They were very professional and very timely, too. However, I have made at least a half dozen calls for the refrigerator and the dishwasher, but nobody had ever called back or followed up. And apparently, nobody wants to work on our dishwasher or refrigerator and American Home Shield said they assigned it to some company. At some point, I got an email that gave us the name of the work people, but nobody ever contacted us. I’ve followed up on both of those multiple times and I’m told different things at different times. I don’t have an endless amount of time to keep calling and checking on it every day.

When I first called in the refrigerator claim, American Home Shield asked the brand of it and I told them it was Sub-Zero. But when the first company came out and looked at the fridge, they tried to be helpful and said that it needed Freon, but they couldn’t do it and they don’t work on Sub-Zero. They said they would let American Home Shield know, but we didn’t hear anything for a week after that until I followed up on it. They assigned it to somebody a week ago. I called back several days later and they said, “Well, if they don’t respond by tomorrow, we’ll assign it to somebody else.” So we have a dishwasher that’s not working. And the refrigerator and freezer are cooling but not well. It’s frustrating.

I did not have any problem with them at all. I had asked them to please call me so that I’d know -- I have dogs and I like to get the dogs put away. And they did call me before they came. The only problem that I had wasn’t really with them. I had to buy a good bit of Freon, and I wanted them to fix the leak. They explained it in depth to me about how you have to replace some lines and you get into a big deal and then you’re almost better off to just replacing the unit.

And so, they said it should hold. If it doesn’t hold me for a year, then they may have to go back and see what else they could do. If it’s several months later and then it goes out again, I’d have to pay another service and then Freon again, which would cost quite a bit of money. And if it continues to happen, then I would want something done. But I think I’m okay with it for right now.

They would tell us that they would call us back but they wouldn't. It was just like night and day from the first house to the second house. I feel squirted away. It was just a mess the whole way around. Regardless, it was all taken care of and I'm paying another plumbing company out to do the work. It was all done in time. Hopefully, if we ever need them again, things are gonna be much smoother.

Communication with American Home Shield should be improved by 100%, and with Mid Ohio too. It was crazy. They're literally right on the same street as this house and just within walking distance. We had one guy saying one thing and another guy saying another thing. In the balance was whether or not this claim was gonna get paid. But one of the other guys that works here is a good dude and I usually use him off the books at my own house.

I paid it monthly with the house payments and when we paid the house off, I didn’t pay the premiums anymore but I started back last year. When I submitted a claim for plumbing, everything was good. Absolute Plumbing Plus was here when they said they’d be here, got the job done and did it right. Also, the interaction with them was very good. I will recommend American Home Shield.

The technician had me waiting around the house all day long. I was told he would be here between 1:00 and 4:00, but it was about 7:30 that night before he got here. He said he got behind due to the weather. It was pouring down rain and he was out there working on that thing in the rain. When he left here a little after 8:00, he said he had one more stop to make. But other than that, he was good and professional. The technician said he put a little Freon and then did some other work to it. The air conditioning unit had stopped cooling and one of the lines had frozen up. But the unit has been doing all right so far. It’s just an old unit.

There is only one other thing that I have a problem with. A hot water line burst under my house and when the technician came out to fix it, they said it wasn’t covered on the everyday warranty. That didn't make sense. I said, “What do you mean everyday? We use that line everyday.” The lady that I spoke with from American Home Shield said that she had talked to a supervisor. But I think she just put me on hold for a couple of minutes and then came back. I don’t think she knew what she was talking about. She and that guy were kinda collaborating on the phone. I told her that everything should be covered if I put in a repair. I use my air conditioner every day and it was covered.

The technician fixed the issue but I had to come out of pocket for that. Plus, I had to pay the $75 service fee for them coming out. But that was the only bad experience that I had with American Home Shield so far and they've been doing pretty good otherwise. When I submitted the claim for the AC over the phone, the representative was good and nice. She gave me a timeline and the technician's name. They also sent me something on my cellphone so I could track his progress when he was coming down. American Home Shield is a great company and I would tell others to try them.

I usually call on the phone, though I tried it online and it wouldn’t go through for some reason. So, it’s easier for me to wait on the phone even though I have to wait a long time. The oven door handle recently came off my oven, and I called AHS and they hooked me up with a contractor. The contractor called me, we made an appointment and they ordered the part on a Friday. It took a couple of weeks, but they located it, came out and put it on. We've also done a couple of garbage disposals over the years and a hot water dispenser, and the service has always been great. We even had a microwave that went out and they told us what to do, and we did it. I recommend them all the time.

Also, I wasn’t sure if my sink was leaking and I couldn’t tell if it was leaking through the back. I was afraid of any kind of moisture getting to the wood. So, I finally called American Home Shield and they sent the contractor the next day. Supertech Appliance Repair, the contractor, told me that the refrigerator was frozen on the inside of the freezer. They took a little bit to figure it out, but they did a good job. He told me that sometimes, by pouring a little bit of warm water, the ice will dissolve. It might not leak but if it’s something more serious and it’s leaking, I should call AHS. Usually, I just tell them what’s wrong then they work on it and I find that it’s working.

Long story short, a lot of the work on our new home was "just for show" and wasn't done properly - including a high-power electrical line from the back panel to our utility room that wasn't buried or otherwise protected, a toilet that was plumbed-in incorrectly, p-traps missing from under the sinks, etc. Well, we called AHS as soon as we realized the electrical line was exposed, and the tech explained that it was improperly installed. Here's the catch: It was "working". Because there was no "failure" of the appliances, AHS refused to fix it. (Even though "improper installation" is covered under my contract.) Four months later, this LIVE power line was hit by a lawnmower (and could have seriously injured or even killed the young man pushing it).

I called AHS to confirm it was a covered incident before requesting a tech for repair. Same tech came out and AHS then refused to authorize the work despite the previous report that it was improperly installed and presented a safety hazard. (AFTER charging my $75 fee for dispatching a tech.) AHS claimed no prior knowledge of the improper installation and closed the claim. Again.

Same song with the plumbing. Plumber reported that toilet plumbing was improperly installed, but because it will flush, it's considered "working". For all we know, it could be flushing bio-waste into our drinking water, but AHS rep literally said, "we really don't care". Keep in mind, we have now had 3 technicians out at $75 a visit to tell us they aren't authorized by AHS to do the work for one reason or the other. (Even though both issues are due to improper installation - which is covered by our contract.) One technician (plumber) tried to sell me a $300 out-of-pocket diagnosis and estimate.

We've paid so much out of pocket to fix things that should have been covered by this warranty, but are discovering that there are loopholes and clauses for just about every instance of appliance or system failure that allow them to reject and deny any claim. The front page of their website says, "If we can't repair the covered item - we'll replace it or offer an alternative solution!" - which is 100% misleading. It's not about "can't"... they "won't" repair or replace covered items, and their contract is deliberately duplicitous. I thought I had good coverage, but I was so, so wrong. If we can't repair the covered item - we'll replace it or offer an alternative solution! I'm more than $1000 out of pocket already (not including the $600+ to AHS) and still without a working water heater, washer/dryer, and one toilet that is "just for show". This warranty seems like little more than a big scam.

Twenty four hours later I did not receive a call. I called AHS again and was told if I didn't hear from contractor in 4 hours to call back. Four hours later still no call. I was then told that another company would contact me within 24 more hours, that didn't happen. I again contacted AHS and was authorized to use an outside contractor. I had to pay a service fee upfront to this outside contractor of 95.00.

I then reached out to AHS to see how I would be reimbursed, since I paid twice for 1 service call that I did the legwork to set up and their response is I am not eligible for any reimbursement. This makes no sense, if they had been able to provide a contractor within their stated time I would have only had to pay 125.00, and nothing to the vendor. In my case I am being double charged because they couldn't supply me with a vendor. This is stealing. This is the worst that I have ever been treated in my 53 years. Has to be illegal.

I have been with American Home Shield for a long time. I’m a Realtor and I offer their warranty to all of my customers, clients, and friends. You have to have insurance for everything and AHS is a great service to have. Sometimes the service people they sent out were not that great but I keep changing them if I’m not satisfied with them.

I submit a claim online if I need a service and recently, I put one in for my residence. Then I was expecting a call from His and Hers Plumbing and they never called. Four days later, I tried to call them with the number that was provided to me on my email confirmation from American Home Shield and they said they didn’t have any of my information. They were they kind running around, so I just hanged up. I was hoping that someone else would get in touch with me and nobody ever did. Then, I had to go travel and when I came back, the problem was still lingering around. So when I get a chance, I need to go and tell AHS that don’t need to have a service done by His and Hers Plumbing because I’m not happy with them.

I wish American Home Shield would add more service people to their network because it looks like the minute you put something in, the contractors grab it not because they’re ready to do the service but because they have the job. And whenever they want, they contact you or they give you a time. But it’s not American Home Shield's fault. It's just that sometimes, they cannot control the people that they contract with.

The house in Chandler has a swimming pool and the pump was giving me some problems so I called American Home Shield for that and Green 2 Crystal Clear came. The technician, Jason, was awesome. He was punctual, very knowledgeable and I couldn’t ask for a better service for what I had paid. What he said he would do, he had done it at the time he said he would and scheduling was not a problem. If he had something he couldn’t do because he needed a part, he’d tell you, “I gotta go and get a part. I’d be right back.” Or he has somebody bring it. He didn’t blow any smoke. I like the integrity of that small business. Send him over anytime. It was just a very smooth and happy experience.

The internal component and battery are wearing out so I agreed to a rebuilt pump. He put that rusty one out and everything was running within the next two hours. I don’t even hear that pump running anymore. I have to come outside and look at the timer and make sure it’s on. The swimming pool is just perfect. He changed the sand and everything inside the filter. I took care of that because I knew it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. I have no idea how old the pool was. I have no maintenance records so now I’m doing this all myself

American Home Shield gave us good service when they did our air conditioner. Last year in September, we had the same issue and there was a company who replaced both of the coils in the unit. It was a brand new two-year-old unit. They also replaced the Freon for both of the units. When I turned on the air conditioner in April, it wasn’t cooling the house and when I called American Home Shield and they said I have to fill out another claim, I asked why I had to file another claim when it was the same problem.

The company who replaced the Freon and the coils guaranteed the work for a year. But since I went through AHS, their 60 days overrode that year and I had to start with a new claim. So I was stuck with another $500 bill, which I wasn’t very happy with. The gentleman was really nice though. I can’t live without the air conditioner, so I had the guy fix it. I spoke to them over the phone. The contractor said that we needed Freon and they just put the Freon in and charged us.

When he told us that the Freon was low I asked him if something like that should occur especially since we haven't been in the house very long. We've been in the eight years and the unit was new, so I asked should we be concerned about a possible leak somewhere that we were not aware of. And he just goes, "It happens," and then that was pretty much it. He just wanted to get off the phone and I just said, "Okay, thank you." We had a leaking pipe under the sink behind the wall. We could hear it, but we couldn’t see it. We submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out the contractor the same day which was really important since it was behind the wall, we had to shut the water hose to the house to prevent damage. Without water in the summer in Texas is not that pleasant. The contractor had to cut into the wall and cut a small place as possible, so it’s not that noticeable even if you are under the sink. He got it fixed within a couple hours after he arrived. He did a great job.

We’ve dealt with AHS a couple of times on our central air and we were able to get same-day service, which is also important because it has been hot in Houston. So, they were able to resolve the issue quickly both times. It’s an older unit, so we might have some additional problems and we’re considering replacing the unit when we get a chance. Having AHS is worth the money. It gives you peace of mind and minimizes your risk for unexpected expenses. I have renewed because I have been pleasantly surprised that it has helped.

My electricity came off and the contractor American Home Shield sent was able to fix it. But I’ve been having an issue with my air condition. A contractor AHS sent fixed it last year of August and it didn’t feel like it was fixed when they fixed it. But from August to September, it got cold so we didn’t have a chance to really test it out, but now that we had to turn it again this year there’s no cool air. The people that fixed it evidently fixed it wrong. I put in a work order since May for American Home Shield and I’m just now getting someone to come out about the air conditioning. Now, it’s June and it’s still not fixed.

This gentleman came out and stated that the previous contractor who worked on my air condition put everything wrong and overfilled the Freon and that’s all he stated. Not that it was fixable. Despite the type of coverage I have on the home, I still went to pay $1,100 out of pocket and it’s still wrong. I’m trying to get it resolved as fast as possible and not just patched up. If I had known that, I would have had the air conditioning replaced myself for the money that I’m spending to have a repair.

But I never had any issues directly with American Home Shield. It's just the contractor they sent. Whenever I submit a claim with AHS over the phone sometimes it’s difficult having to press all these buttons, but other than that, it wasn’t difficult to put claim in. I was having problems with my refrigerator's ice maker and the fan above the range along with some light in there so I called AHS. The agent I spoke with was excellent and very knowledgeable. I did not realize until she pointed to me that I could have one service call and fee as long as I set it up at the same time with the same vendor. She was very gracious to explain that to me and that saved me a $100, so it worked out great. Then, the two individuals who came out were excellent. They came a little early which was a great surprise because usually people are running late. They looked at the ice maker and were able to diagnose the problem within two minutes. They then replaced both the two sensing units and now the unit is working beautifully.

Then, what I thought was an electrical problem for the fan over the range was just a lever that could have been thrown inadvertently by me when I was trying to figure out why the light wasn’t working. It took about five seconds to show me where that was, and then the fan started working. They had to order a bulb and came back the next week with it and replaced the broken one with no additional charge. I couldn’t have been happier with their service and the level of professionalism. All in all, it was a great experience. I've already told a number of people that they should have a plan such as AHS. In my old house I had American Home Shield and then I tried the other one and I didn’t like it and I’ve come back. I switched in March from First American and American Home Shield's service is more prompt. They do a better job.

Also, the contractor was professional. He checked everything over to see if there’s a problem some place else that might have caused it. This second time a wire had melted so he replaced the wire and everything was fine. So far I’ve had no other trouble. Going with AHS is worth it. It's peace of mind to know that if something happened that there's somebody that could come repair it and it's not gonna cost an arm and a leg.

There was a buildup inside of the drain and it was going up through my sinks upstairs and it caused my toilets to clog up. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield, and it was very easy to do. It took me less than two minutes to submit the claim. The guy from High Priority Plumbing was very good and so sweet. He went upstairs mainly to warm water in the tub, flushed the toilets and everything upstairs to make sure there wouldn’t be any backup that came up through the sink. He knew exactly what to do. He changed out the garbage disposal and he checked everywhere else to make sure that it was fine. Everything is up and running now.

So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been good. They made sure that someone came out to me. I also had a claim for the garage door and the only issue that I had was I didn’t realize that the garage door wasn’t covered under the home warranty. I found out that only the electronic part of the garage opener was covered. But other than that, everything has been fine. I've recommended several people to American Home Shield.

I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield online and it’s straightforward and not a tedious process at all. I usually have an electrical claim, and AHS normally sends the same contractor. I recently had an electrical claim, and I also had a claim wherein AHS sent someone to replaced the wax ring on the toilet the other day. They’ve sent out a different contractor. But both contractors were very professional and respectful gentlemen. I had an instance with the ceiling fan where the repair man brought out a brand new fan but it didn’t work so he had to take it back. Still, he was able to get that correct within the same day.

They knew what they were doing and they did it fast. They didn’t make a big mess and cleaned up everything when the repair was done. The washing machine is working much better since the repair was done and my wife loves it. American Home Shield has been good. Think about how much money you're gonna end up spending elsewhere if you don’t get a warranty from them. Spending your money now is better than spending it later.

I called American Home Shield for this claim but I like the online submission process as well. On the other hand, we had a contractor last year on a water heater issue and he got a little pushy to replace the water heater. We knew there was nothing wrong with it and it didn’t need to be replaced. We were pretty sure it just needed the thermostat turned up. We said that if that doesn’t work, then we’ll replace it. He got a little pissy and used a language. But we got what we wanted. He turned the temperature up and it worked fine. We can’t do it ourselves because it’s an internal adjustment and that’s why I had to call somebody. It's been a whole year and it works just fine. I recommend American Home Shield.

Recently, I called them to put in a claim and told them what was going on. This house was built about 35 years ago and it has a popcorn ceiling throughout. Cook Construction repaired the ceiling last May 9th and they had to cut some holes in it to replace the drain from the shower in the master bathroom. They did a great job and everything was fine. To my knowledge, AHS fixes but do not paint and that was understandable so I’m taking care of that. I just called AHS again because the washing machine is on the fritz and there were problems returning my call after they issued a confirmation number. The guy’s supposed to be monitoring that part and I have no complaints.

We were an AHS client for 4 years. Had minimal service calls and the simple issues were always easily fixed and done. However when it came to critical issues with appliances or air conditioning is when things fell apart. Our central air unit was not performing up to par. We made the request for service, the tech came out, diagnosed the system, was out of freon. The unit was filled less than 12 months prior to this with freon The tech advised us the unit was old and should be replaced. But he would like to do a leakage check of the unit. He had to put in a request for the check with AHS. Then come back to do the check once it was authorized. This would mean someone would have to take off work again, rearrange busy schedules once the leak check was authorized. Then if it was a leak, it was going to cost us $900 to fill the unit with freon or R22.

With no air, and the temps reaching 80+ degrees in the house, we bit the bullet, bought a new unit for $6,000 and cancelled the leak check. 3 days later our dishwasher began to leak. It's Sunday night Memorial Day weekend, and we have water everywhere, and the water would not stop backing up in the unit. We bailed out about 12 gallons of water, and finally were able to just shut the water off. We made the call to AHS to set an appointment. We had to remove the front panel to the units door, as it was full of water, and continued to drain onto the floor.

My call was returned on Wednesday which was 24 hours after the first day of business. When I explained the problem with the dishwasher the company told me it would be 3 weeks before they could to us to look at the unit. With a household of 6 people, no hot water in the kitchen is not a good thing. It limits your cooking, and total use of your kitchen. We were using paper plates, and plasticware for 4 days. We again bit the bullet and purchased a new dishwasher with no help from AHS. So in a matter of 2 weeks we spent over $ 7,500 that was not in the budget. Both of these items should have been covered by our contract but due to the hoops to jump thru on the AC unit and the dishwasher technician being the only contractor with AHS in the area, it cost us a lot of money. We feel AHS does not come thru when needed.

Last Monday, I logged a request for service for a broken AC. (Same issue for the third time in a year) And was told I would get a call from a dispatch company within 24 hours. On Thursday, I finally received a call from the company, (who left a message with a call back number). I tried calling the number, and it required a second number and password. There was no live answer, or a way to leave a message. The next day, the same thing happened. I was not able to call them back, despite trying every number I could find for them online.

Today (Monday), I called AHS, and was put in queue for 25 minutes before a rep picked up. I spent the next hour trying to get to someone who could help me schedule an appointment with a reputable company, that had an actual working phone number, and could schedule a visit to fix my AC. (It’s been 100 degrees in Austin, Texas for the past two weeks).

No luck. She told me her manager was “not on site” and despite three attempts to put me in a queue for “escalations”, she was told they wouldn’t take the call and I would have to wait 4-6 hours for her supervisor to call me back to determine a resolve. I’ve still not received a call back from her supervisor (12 hours later), I’ve not received a call from a reputable company to fix my AC, AHS still has the $100 deductible I paid last week, and it’s going to be 103 in Austin tomorrow. By far, the worst customer “suppport” I’ve ever encountered. Zero resolution after 1.5 hours on the phone, with no end in sight, and seriously considering why I have been with them for the past five years.

Customer since Nov 2017. 1st time utilizing home warranty Saturday 6/2/18 - AC not working. We are in Rockport, TX. It is 95 degrees outside. Unfortunately, over a 48 hour period, after MULTIPLE phone conversations with contradicting information, high frustrations with “snarky” AHS operators, MULTIPLE requests to speak to a supervisor, a phone call to the corporate office, we have decided to cancel our contract. We never did get to speak with a supervisor. Our AC is still not working.

AHS does not see anything wrong with only having one contractor to choose from (in their service area) that has very poor ratings/reviews with a highly recognized organization (BBB) and would rather lose a customer than to work to resolve the issue. Sat 6/2 4:00 pm: 1st phone call-44 minutes. On hold and to log initial service request. Could not understand accent of operator. Sat 6/2 4:45 pm: 2nd phone call-51 minutes. On hold and to review service request. Only two "approved" AC contractors in area (one 200 miles away and one 30 miles away). Authorization granted to select an "outside" technician because AHS could not get a response from their 2 contractors. We chose another AC contractor and verified contractor was not on AHS' "do not use" list. We thought this “do not use” contractor list was interesting to have. Very difficult accent to understand operator.

Sun 6/3 8:50 am: Chosen AC contractor arrives and diagnoses problem. It is not fixable, cause is due to normal wear and tear, unit must be replaced. 3rd phone call-10 minutes. AHS provides us with another number to call with AC contractor to discuss findings. Sun 6/3 9:21 am: 4th phone call-1 hour 5 minutes. On hold for 40 minutes while AC contractor waits to talk with AHS. It takes another 25 minutes for AC contractor to answer AHS' questions. We are told we need a 2nd opinion. AHS does not have any notes from night before when AHS tried to contact their only two approved AC contractors. We are back at square one. AHS states within 48 hours will have an AC contractor respond to us and set up a time to come to our home.

Sun 6/3 5:55 pm: 5th phone call-20 minutes. On hold and just following up to see if there is an update of their 2 AC contractors. No luck – no response received. AHS operator states “notes are confusing”. AHS operator also states he doesn’t understand why we were not already offered the “cash out” option. Mon 6/4 8:54 am: AHS leaves a voicemail stating one of their approved AC contractors has responded and can come out Tuesday. We read reviews online from several sources. Not good and a few VERY concerning comments. BBB rating=B+ with 55% negative reviews, 3.58 out of 5 stars. We decide we do not want this contractor in our home.

Mon 6/4 10:10 am: 6th phone call-1 hr 45 minutes. On hold for 1 hr. AHS tells us that if we want this covered under our home warranty, then we MUST use their approved contractor regardless of what we think. AHS relays to us that they do not recognize BBB nor any other online ratings/comments as they utilize their own rating system. We let AHS know that if this is how they operate then we’d like to talk to a supervisor or we’d have to cancel. Was transferred to another operator (not a supervisor). Relayed details AGAIN. This AHS operator tells us that she used to have a home warranty contract with AHS, her employer, and she knows exactly what we are dealing with. This same operator tells us a manager will call us back within 1 hour-she is the most helpful.

Mon 6/4 3:36 pm: AHS leaves us a voicemail with a contact phone number but no extension. This, apparently, is the corporate office. Mon 6/4 4:00 pm: 7th phone call-1 hr 15 minutes. We call AHS but because we do not have extension number, we are on hold for 30 minutes. We get to talk to AHS and locate the person who left us the message. After going thru all details AGAIN, she transfers us to cancellation dpt who relays to us that her only service is to cancel our contract and cannot help us with any service issues. We convince her to transfer us to the “escalation dpt”. This new AHS operator is with “service support” and does not see any issue as it is our choice to utilize AHS’ service contractor or to go outside the home warranty and utilize our own contractor. True, but then we see no reason to have a home warranty! Vicious cycle ended!

And when I bought this house back in August, the realtor asked me who I would use and I answered American Home Shield. So I’ve had them for four years total. I file my claim on the website and it's simple. It was easy and smooth to just go log in on the website and request service. The only thing I would've changed is to have had a phone call back a little quicker.

They weren’t very quick initially. It was like, “Hey, we’ll call you in 24 hours.” I called and they were like, “Oh yeah, we’ll have someone out.” But once the contractor, Roger, showed up at my house they were super responsive. Our system wasn’t cooling, so Roger went up into the attic and inspected our system and found that we had air leak in the ductwork. We had to get those patched and the crew showed up and did that. And then he told me that our Freon was low. We didn’t get Freon when they patched the ducts so I had to call them and say, “Hey, come do my Freon.” And then they came and did the Freon. Roger was also very thorough in terms of explaining things to us the way he was looking at everything. We were happy with it and I've already recommended them to my friends.

If I have insurance, why should it be that some money comes out of pocket. And also, I have claims still hanging in the air with the water heater. It has never been fixed because they wanted me to pay out of pocket $700 plus $100 dollars.

I made two claims recently with AHS in one day, one for the garage and for the AC machine. However, the AC was never serviced. I called the company that AHS suggested, but I left three messages and they never responded to my call. With the garage door, everything was fine. It was not opening and closing. One of the cables was off. The contractor came, adjusted everything and fixed it within 10 minutes. However, I had to pay $85 as the garage door was not covered. The techs who came to our home were very good. But I would tell others not to go with AHS.

American Home Shield was part of the deal when we bought the house. It is a good resource in getting somebody to come out there and get the job done. We bought a new home and there was a woman who came in to rekey five locks. She was very professional and gave us great information as far as what was needed to be done. It was very efficient. She did her job and we were very satisfied. The service that was provided was great and I think if the woman who answered the phone when I submitted the claim was more efficient than she was, it would have been better. With that person who took the order, it just went on and on forever. It was a simple thing to say why I did the keys done, but it kinda just went on. She put me on hold and I kept on talking and talking her. I actually managed to go online on the computer and key the information in quicker than she was gonna do it.

I've had American Home Shield for years and what used to be the problem was if you had multiple things for them to look at, you’d have to call them because the website only did one problem at a time. But now, it has a build where you can check multiple things and you can group the issues together. I like that and it is a lot easier to navigate. And over the past year, I have not even called them and I used to always have to call and not just to go online and put it in.

The LED lights in our refrigerator was flashing really fast, and it seems to be a common problem with LED refrigerators. The contractor came out and assessed the problem. They then ordered the part and came back and put in the part. The guy who came knew what he was doing. He was good at what he does. He was also very friendly and professional. Prior to filing a claim for our refrigerator, American Home Shield had to fix the washer and dryer. They didn’t do anything for the dryer. With the washer, they had to come out several times until they finally got the right part and put it in.

I have had some problems with American Home Shield in the past. A contractor came out to fix the garage door opener and they replaced the spring and then, American Home Shield charged me the $75 callout fee. On top of that, they charged $160 at the time that they fixed it and said that they didn't cover it. So I asked what did they cover and they said they'd cover it if they replace the whole thing. I told them that at $260, it seems like close to replacing the whole thing. And worse, it took over a month to get it fixed. They came out about six times and it ended up being the sensors which were covered by American Home Shield but I was still out $260 plus the $75.

My furnace was acting up so I contacted American Home Shield and the rep took care of what I needed to do. I called them, they took my info and then they linked me with the people in my area. They give two or three options and the vendor usually contacts me and I pick who I want to service my claim. The contractors that AHS sent did a good job. They were very timely, harmonious and friendly. They came out right away and tracked down the part my furnace needed, which wasn’t easy to get. I called AHS back because there was one other issue that came up later and they came right back out. They have a 90-day warranty or free recall if there's an issue. If you own a home and have a lot of different appliances, it’s worth investing in AHS and I would recommend them.

My air conditioning unit was leaking water from the inside. At first, I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and the website navigation was relatively easy. Then I wound up calling them as well and that was easy too. The only problem was that the contractor that they had to fix the problem wasn't experienced because I had to call them thrice and the guy that came out was not very professional. Although I just had to pay one time, I still had to pay extra for Freon to go in there and the last guy that came out said that was a problem from the start. Still, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

But in all fairness, it was over the Memorial Day holiday so we get it. The Technician was professional and knowledgeable. He showed up within the timeframe that they quoted, came in, assessed the issue and fixed the AC within in an hour or two that he was here. Things have been great since then. Although the representatives were professional, they didn’t always know what was going on as far as billing was concerned. The technician would say one thing and the representative would say something else, so I was not always in the loop regarding changes in policy and it was very confusing. I was not satisfied with American Home Shield at all and I would tell others not to go to them.

And then, they got somebody to let me know who the person was that's coming out. The process was very efficient. The contractor was out in a couple of days and fixed the issue the same day. Our air conditioner would not kick off. We were without air conditioning for nine days and it was a little inconvenient at night. There are two units in the house, but the unit downstairs was the one that was out. It’s an open-architecture house, so we didn’t sleep at night in my bedroom that warm. So, I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The agent got on it right away and an electrician guy came the same day. My wife was here when the electrician came and he was very fast. He said that the drain line was clogged which caused the switch to keep the AC unit from running and told us that we needed a plumber. They even contacted the plumber and the plumber came two days later. Then, it took two more days because the plumber said it wasn’t plugged on his end. It was two more days before the AC guy got back and turned the AC on and it worked.

But it only worked for a bit and it kicked off and it was on the weekend. So, I contacted the company and they told us to call American Home Shield. I was out of town that weekend so it didn’t matter. The contractor came back on Monday and found the clog in the line and they took care of it. The AC has been working great ever since. Then, I got an email saying I was due to pay another $75. So, I called AHS customer service and they said that I don’t owe another $75 and they’ll take it off because it was the original call. AHS did pretty well.

I called in for my air conditioning unit because there was a lot of water leaking on the floor. American Home Shield sent out Bill's, and they noticed that I was a little low on the Freon and they did something that was supposed to have fixed it. They were said everything should be working okay. But they were not professional to me at all. And if they have to come back out, I don't wanna deal with them.

One of the things I really didn’t like was that they came on to the carpet and had no covers for their shoes. Then, before I knew it, they used a little bucket that I had in my utility room. They didn’t even ask to use it. I didn't mind that, but if they wanna use something that belonged to me, they were supposed to ask as opposed to using their own products. So, they threw me off, but I didn’t say anything about it. When they left, I had to call them because they left something off. And they had to come out again because I was still having the same issue and there was more water on the floor.

The first time they came out, they told me to turn off my air the whole day, so I did, and it was turned off by the time they got to the first appointment. When they called AHS for what they thought was a Freon issue, AHS denied it because it was supposed to have three pounds of Freon out of the thing, and it was only out one pound. The second time Bill's came out, they didn’t tell me to turn off the air, but then my air wasn’t getting as cold as it used to get after the first time they came out. So, I told them about it. They said that my air has been off all day. And they told me it would take a while to get the air back into the whole house and I should wait a while and it would come back. I waited a couple of days, and I called AHS again about them. It was getting cold but not as cold as it used to be, and it was already hot.

AHS then had to put me back in the queue for somebody to come out. They didn’t have anybody available and when I got the email, it was for Bill's to come out. Bill's gave me a call last week and they called me very unprofessional. The guy asked if I sent another service request out and I told him I did because it's still not getting as cold as it used to be. When I used to put it on 64, it used to be super cold, and if I put it down to 61, I'm gonna be freezing. But I'm not freezing like I used to. He told me it was because it was hotter outside. He said he was gonna call AHS, and they won’t send his company back out. But I haven't heard from them, and I didn't call AHS back again after. But time is going on here. I know they have a two-month warranty.

Other than this claim involving Bill's, I like American Home Shield's service and everything has been cool. I have actually just put another work order in for my stove. But AHS has to get back with me for the part. The guy came out on Thursday and I had to take off that day for him to come. This week they should be getting back with me for the part to come in, and for them to come back out and put the part in the stove.

I live in Texas, and my AC went out on the hottest June day on record-- a day with high humidity and heat advisory by 7 am. We discovered the AC wasn't working when we woke up Saturday morning and we immediately called American Home Shield. We were told to pay the service fee and call their technician to schedule an appointment. The earliest appointment available was Tuesday-- 4 days from the outage. In Texas, you cannot stay in a home without AC when it's in the 90s, with high humidity, and with heat warnings. We called and tried to explain but was told by a manager that there was nothing AHS could do. They said they had 5 days to respond, and Tuesday was 4 days, so it was all normal. 5 days without AC is not okay during a Texas heat wave!

I called back after lunch to see if they could help us get a hotel room, as the heat index was 103 by this point. Overall, this was a horrible experience. The first customer service representative told me she was transferring me to a supervisor, then the line went dead. I called back and got the immeasurable pleasure of speaking with Shirley, who was rude, patronizing, and a total time waster. Shirley would not even let me speak to a supervisor— she put me on a list to be called back in 24-48 hours and then spent five minutes blabbering on about how the supervisor has other jobs and can't just talk to customers all day long.

When I said there must be something that can be done because I cannot live in my house when it's registering as 90 degrees indoors, Shirley literally said I must not have understood her words and proceeded to repeat herself. For the record, Shirley, I perfectly understood but I was aghast at your ineffective and callous customer service policies and your attitude. Shirley also mentioned they don’t expedite unless it’s 105– and it was only 95 per her weather app so she couldn't do anything. She would not confirm which app she was using. Meanwhile, WeatherBug and Weather Channel both let me know it was closer to 97 with a 105 heat index in my zip code. Overall, she was rude, patronizing, and frustrating to deal with.

I followed up on Twitter and the company asked for my information, but they never replied after I provided my contract number. We also put in an online request in the morning, as this company was unreliable in the past with a dishwasher service request (which has also not been fixed, just FYI). I do have customer service experience, and I do my best to be understanding and polite. The rigid policies of the company were not customer friendly, but the patronizing and rude attitude of the people on the phone made the situation so much worse. A little kindness and sympathy would go a long way. They made a stressful situation into a nightmare. We are definitely not renewing our contract, which thankfully is up this month.

My A/C went out Friday May 25th. I put in a service request early that evening when I realized I would need someone to come service it and paid the $75 service fee and was told they would get someone out "asap". About an hour and a half goes by and I call again and was told they have up to two hours to get a contractor out to my place. After two and a half hours I was then told they have up to four hours to get a contractor to come out. After the FOUR hour window I was told it was too late in the day and they don't have any contractors working that late because it was Memorial Day weekend and I would have to wait until Tuesday. I call back in the morning as it's Texas in late May and my house was at 90 degrees and my dogs were already struggling and was told I could get an outside authorization to have a third party contractor come look at my A/C unit.

I had to call back multiple times to get the number to the outside authorization department and to pretty much do their job at this point. I encountered the most awful customer service. Almost every time I called back one customer service rep had to "ask a supervisor" every question I asked and when I finally asked to speak to the supervisor directly I was told, "There's not one here on the weekends" and that I could request to get on a list for a supervisor to call me back. I requested to be put on that list and am STILL waiting to hear back from a supervisor 10 days later.

I ended up cancelling my service request and am still waiting to get refunded my $75 service charge. I've attempted to call AHS MULTIPLE times and keep getting a busy signal or the line just keeps ringing. This is the worst experience I could imagine having with a home warranty company. My warranty with them is up in just a couple months and I can't wait to never have to deal with them again!

Absolutely horrible. Don't waste your time and money. I've had this company for over five years, and they always send out the lowest bid, bottom of the barrel, half-ass, slap a band-aid type companies to deal with your problem. The latest frustration was talking to a representative who approved the claim, only to have another representative call me the day the plumber was supposed to show up (a week later), and deny the claim. They left us without a toilet for over two weeks and denied the claim twice for items I was covered for. They wanted us to pay another service charge to have another company come out to "access" the problem.

So, I will get a bid from three well-known plumbing companies, have them repair my covered items, and send AHS the itemized invoice along with the lawsuit for the repair and past monthly payments (because apparently they weren't covering anything). Absolute Junk! Half a star is way too overrating for this company. You'll spend more money in monthly payments than if you just cover the repairs as they happen. Thanks for nothing AHS, I hope you step in gum in a parking lot.

I contacted American Home Shield and the first contractor they sent did not show up on time and I was still charged for the service call. They sent a second contractor out and did not charge me for it. The contractor told me the ice maker was not even hooked up and I would need a plumber to fix it. He also did not know why the fridge was leaking or what the chemical odor was. He suggested I wash the inside of my fridge with diluted bleach, huh?

The fridge was said to have been serviced and in working order before I moved in, which obviously it was not. This is fraudulent as I have all of this in writing, and furthermore the fridge is unsafe and unsanitary. I cannot keep my groceries in the fridge because I do not feel safe with how the fridge is in its current state. And since the last service call, the contractor put all of this in his report and told me to report it as fraudulent under my warranty. And here we are 2 weeks later with ZERO communication or followup from AHS about what they are going to do to help.

I'm sure I'll get the "Sorry for the inconvenience, someone will contact you soon" generic response from this company on here. I don't care, I just want people to know how shady this company is. The pool pump and the pool filter both had issues. The pump would run and then kick off and then run and kick off again. The filter, on the other hand, was not performing the way it should and it also had some wear on top of it. My initial call to American Home Shield was to report those issues. Then the next day the contractor Worry Free Pool called me up, saying they’ve got an opening and asked if they could come and look at the problem. They came out that same day and the tech looked at everything and said he would turn in the claim because my motor and my filter head were bad. He said that once AHS approved the claim, he’d be out again and put everything on. And he was true to his word. He was out two days after that and replaced everything so that it was up and running. That service was really good, timely and professional. They were fabulous and I highly recommend them.

However, the issue before this was kind of a nightmare and a lot of it had to do with the initial phone calls that I had to make. One example was that I was at home and was on hold for over 40 minutes on the phone. Then I had my daughter call. She was on hold for five minutes and she got answered before I did. The first person that called in should have been the first to be answered. Also, there were several calls because everything was set up. And then the reps said something about the money that didn’t go through so they were not gonna do it unless I pay again. But I’ve already paid and there were probably notes that they could look up. Then rep said she would set something else up. But a couple of days went by and I didn’t hear anything so I called back again. And it was about five or six times that I was on hold for at least an hour each time.

Then finally, they gave me the name and number of the contractor that was supposed to come out. But I went a step above that and told them to let me call them to see if they’ve got something going on. So I called the contractor and they said they were not coming out because I live too far out. Once again, I kept calling AHS and again I’m on hold for an hour. I told AHS what the contractor told me. The contractor also said they know about the home warranty and they are not coming out because they’ve done this in the past and they were on hold for an hour. And they were not getting paid for that hour that they were on hold.

I just wanted the problem fixed so I called back AHS again and told them that our house was starting to stink. The water was stagnant and it wouldn’t drain. The rep said she would call it a health risk and have someone contact us in four hours. But four hours went by, the next day was done and it went and again, the next day was done and it went. There was still no phone call so I had to call back again. It was back and forth.

When our air conditioner stopped working, I ignored it at first. But when the temperature got higher outside, I thought I’d better check it out. I called American Home Shield and spoke with a representative. And then someone came out and did an assessment the next day. That person submitted his report and then a repairman came the next day. It turned out that the compressor had to be replaced. He was able to replace it the next day and it took him about four hours to do that.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I had it in Washington State for about 30 years. The people that previously owned this home had paid for one year of home warranty with someone else and when I called them, they were not helpful. So I dropped them like a hot potato and bought myself new washer and dryer and then signed up for American Home Shield.

I went online to file a claim to American Home Shield for the air conditioning that wasn’t cooling properly. The claim process was quick and efficient then REO Mechanical came after a couple of days. The tech was extremely efficient and after he went through the AC, he told me that there were some loose bolts and that was there was a leak. So we tightened that whole up, put the Freon in, and solved the problem. Everything is working great now, especially with this hot weather. The only objection I really had was the fact that American Home Shield has a limit of $10 per pound on their Freon that they will pay, and Freon is now $145 a pound. So that cost prepaying, but then it's becoming more difficult because of the shortage of Freon.

When my refrigerator wasn't cooling, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I have been through it before and it was easy. The website was fine and it showed me the phone number after it was assigned, and I was to call up the company right away, so I didn't have any issues there. And the contractor was great. Since I had already known what was wrong 'cause it happened before, I just grabbed the serial number of the part and diagnosed it over the phone. The contractor ordered the part before he even came out and so he saved a bit of time there. I did have to wait a few days for the part to arrive and being without a refrigerator for four days is not ideal. But it's nothing AHS could change, and I'm not dissatisfied in any way. But if there is some way they could fix or improve the lead time in getting parts, that would be great.

It was the fourth time this same refrigerator had this problem over the last three years. I've had to have the same fan motor replaced. Early on, I asked about the number of repairs before they come in and just do a replacement, but it was a lengthy process to kind of get some information back. AHS has not volunteered anything on replacing the refrigerator. For them, it's probably more effective to replace it 'cause it's an expensive fridge. But the refrigerator is working fine now. And AHS is great. I recommend them to my friends quite often. My friends don’t even know that this kind of service exists.

I had American Home Shield replace my whole air conditioning unit back in October of 2016. The air conditioner was not even two years old and it wasn’t producing cold air so I called on Wednesday at 10:30 at night when I got home from church. They told me that somebody would get in contact with me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. I received a text message from a place stating that they would be in contact with me within another 24 hours to discuss an appointment. Needless, I never could get in contact with that company and they never called back. I went a whole week without any air.

I called American Home Shield back to advise them that nobody has contacted me with regards to scheduling an appointment. I was a little frustrated because I kept being placed on hold and American Home Shield's systems went down that day. I would wait for 45 minutes to call back to be hung up on. I had to find my own people to come out to the house. I told the lady to tell me who was in the list and I would call the contractor myself to see if they can get me a tech because I was getting nowhere with American Home Shield. So, she gave me a list of the people that I can call.

The people who came out here fixed the air conditioning unit but it was inconvenient because I had to stay on the phone all day long trying to get somebody to come out here and that’s something that AHS should have done for me. Since the repair, I haven't had any issues with the AC. The techs said that the wires to it was burnt so that’s why it wasn’t producing any cold air. American Home Shield has been beneficial to me, but we got spammed. I would tell others to just be prepared and that they may have to do some research and figure some things out themselves, but overall, I can't complain.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is super easy. I do it online and if I have any questions, I call them and they're right on it and answer me fast. Furthermore, the speed of their repairs is fantastic. I've had very little issues with people who came out to my house to fix anything. The only delays I've ever had are when parts needed to be ordered because it takes time for those to come in. But then when the repair guys were here, everything's done quickly.

We had repeated AC repairs almost yearly for six years between the upstairs unit mostly and occasionally the downstairs unit. And they kept refilling the Freon and telling us they fixed the patch here. While the people sent out always say they fixed it, the next year, it's broken again. The latest person they sent out told us that it was not just our condenser downstairs but our coil upstairs that needed to be replaced. He sent in the report to American Home Shield. They sent out somebody for a second opinion who verified the same thing. And they've replaced it. It took three weeks to get everything repaired.

Overall, while I like American Home Shield and the security of having that account, I wish they use some of the bigger companies in town instead of the smaller ones because I’m familiar with some of them. But some big companies won't use them because they said they have slow tech. Still, I have recommended AHS to a few people who've gotten policies, too.

I typically go online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. They have a button where you can hit a claim which is helpful and I love it. I don’t have to deal with the queue because when I do have to call in, they have very long queue. And then, I'd hear back from AHS in a few hours as to who the company they're sending out is and that we’ll hear from them in 24 business hours. And then, I'd get a call from the company and they'd set up a mutually agreed appointment to come out.

So far, the vendor has been excellent. They were professional and competent. They have always been able to resolve the problem but that doesn’t mean that the first time they send someone out, they’d be able to resolve the issue. Half the time, they had to order a part. So we had to wait and when that part comes in, they'd come back and that same vendor would come in and redo it. And, in addition to the monthly fee, we pay a trade fee any time somebody comes out, unless something falls out of the scope of the warranty. So that fee is guaranteed to fix or replace the issue for at least 30 days without any additional fee to make. So if they’re unable to fix the issue, then they have to replace the item regardless if it’s 30 days after that.

I had an issue for the hot water in my Washington DC condo and I was told, “This is gonna be a $4,000 replacement.” That was why I got an American Home Shield home warranty to begin with. I will never have a thousand dollars plus bill again. However, there were two issues that came up in St. Louis place that haven’t gotten resolved. One was with the washing machine and the other was an air conditioning. And AHS did not follow up and the issue has not been resolved for about six months now and we couldn’t get an escalation Department to call us back. They kept saying they would call and they didn’t.

We've had issues also where the vendor couldn’t handle it and has rejected the claim and then, AHS has decided to a new vendor. But the vendor said, “We’re just waiting for parts.” They can do that for six months. So we’re just sitting around waiting and that was the major issue. My property manager was online for three hours trying to get somebody with AHS. She was trying to get it escalated and they would say, “Ok fine. The manager with call you back.” And I never get a callback. I would really appreciate if there was someone I could call directly. If there’s an ongoing issue for more than X period of time, they should have somebody to make that get done, instead of us having to constantly follow up with the vendor.

There was an issue with my pool pump and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield through the internet. Their website was pretty straightforward and AHS was able to send out a contractor in about 2 days. He replaced the fan filter and everything was great initially, but there was not a whole lot of suction on the pump part. So, he came out and said that he would clean out the pipes and when he did, he must’ve back washed the fan filter into the pool itself because my pool went from clear blue to dark cloudy green within a two-hour period.

Then he blamed me by saying that I didn’t have my chemicals balanced. I went back and forth with him a little bit and had the water tested at another place who told me that there was no possible way that my pool could’ve turned green in that short amount of time unless something was done to it. I said that to the contractor and he told me that that was not the case. Then, I just left it at that. I bought a shock and was able to clean up the pool myself afterwards. But then I started having issues the second time with the motor going out and it was the same company that came out. Luckily we put our differences aside and made it work in the end.

Having warranty on my property is very valuable because when buying a used home, there are always a lot of variables that I'm not quite sure of. The inspector would come in and say that everything looks fine but then, a few months down the road, something would go out and I didn't expect to have these huge expenses. On my previous home, I had a home warranty policy also and it really helped out because I had a water softener that worked for about five months before it decided to just completely not function anymore.

We had several issue back to back and the second time we made a request to American Home Shield it was for a separate issue. They thought we were calling about the first issue again, which they already fixed so they never came the second time. And at the time, we had tenants in the house so the tenants were getting upset when we forced them into waiting around when we had to make calls to get someone out there to resolve the issue. Then AHS found someone to send later on during that day. We wanted to get the job done and they were able to.

I always submit my claim online through the American Home Shield website and it's not difficult. You just enter your phone number, zip code and your account pops up. You choose the repair that you need and then you submit it and then they give you an option to pay now or later. And then they send you the email, “The actual contact will call you within the next 24 hours to set an appointment," and then depending on my availability and their availability, it could be a couple of days.

Before the home warranty, I would just call companies I find online and then those companies give high sales, which I don’t like. But with AHS, they do the job and they’re done. They don’t pressure you. I would recommend them. There has been a couple of ups and downs but overall I still stayed with them and I’m gonna keep them.

I have two different things going on right now. One of them is the hot water heater. Service Contractors responded right away and I got an appointment. They came and removed the old hot water heater. Both of the techs were very courteous and they answered any questions we had. They’re set to reconnect the new heater today. And then also, I found out today that an inspector from the city has to come out as well. However, we got shocked when we found out that they had to put in new water lines and everything else for $400. I’ve had plumbers before and it didn’t cost that much.

The other one I'm a little worried about is the company for the stove and microwave. American Home Shield gave me JNB Construction which I thought was a strange name. I got a text from JNB and I’ve tried to return the call. In fact, I am texting them right now but I haven’t been able to get anyone except a voicemail. It’s a young lady and it doesn’t sound like JNB. Even so, whenever I have gotten in touch with AHS, they have been fine. They usually respond quickly. They're always polite and they get me some information right away. I’m very happy with the service as well. I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to my brother and sister and they bought the policy.

When I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield for a leaky toilet, the person I dealt with was slow getting things done. It took a couple of days for them to get somebody out and I had to pay two times to get plumbing taken care of. The second guy who came in from Gator Plumbing and fixed it right was awesome. He went around and checked all the other plumbing in the house for us while he was there. So the plumbing claim has already been taken care of. At that same house, we just put a new AC unit in and we paid for it on our own. But the duct work is old and I was told that it’s gonna start splitting out on me. I’m then wondering if duct work is covered with AHS.

We called American Home Shield about another leak in the ceiling over the garage from the air conditioning unit because the drain pan was overflowing. I usually submit a claim over the phone because the claim process is a little complicated, so I just want to tell somebody real quick. The technician that American Home Shield sent out three weeks prior did not clean out the drain pan and maybe didn't even clean out the main drain. He did a very poor job. So for this last one, I had specifically requested a different technician to come out because aside from being incompetent, the first guy was also rude. And I made American Home Shield aware of that.

So, they sent out a technician who was actually assigned to the area because the first guy wasn't. He was very nice and professional. He cleaned everything up and gave us suggestions again on how to keep it from happening, annual inspections and things like that. We were very pleased. We've dealt with American Home Shield for about five times now and I only had that one bad experience. But American Home Shield itself has been fine the whole time. Thus, I'd tell anyone interested in them to join up. It's worth it.

A couple of weeks back, I had a problem with the air conditioner. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and my my experience was fine. Then, I called them again because I had a carbon monoxide leak. It was over the holiday weekend, so I called on Monday morning then they dispatched a plumber who came in on Tuesday afternoon. He barely looked at the hot water heater. He proceeded to tell me that I had a wild animal that died in the ventilation system and that my house was infested. Then he pretty much ran out of here.

So, I had to hire a duct person who came in the next day. He told me that the ventilation was fine and there was nothing in the vents that was keeping the exhaust from flowing out. From there, it was an endless amount of phone calls to AHS try to get a new plumber. AHS reassigned my claim to somebody else who, finally, after multiple phone calls, told me they couldn’t come out for a week later.

Then on Thursday, after I had been told that my claim had been elevated to the next level, I called to see where we were. Apparently, my claim hadn’t been elevated and there was nothing assigned. AHS said that I was on my own essentially and I could go out and find someone. I then spent another few hours and another day off of work and eventually, I was able to find my own plumber. It turned out that I needed a clean air exchange into my utility room, so the tech had to put a hole in the wall to the outside. But I was very disappointed because I spent days and hours with AHS and in the end, I had to resolve the issue on my own. Right now, everything’s up and running again, but I was without hot water for almost five days.

So, it was a horrible experience and I was pretty disappointed. I hope it doesn’t happen again and I’m cautiously optimistic because I had one good experience with AHS on a different issue. I'm also concerned that it was all done automated. I should have been able to speak to someone and if I did, they may have gotten the right person out here to start with. But the first plumber they sent out didn’t know what he was doing. AHS reassigned it after I called the next day and after I paid for a duct man. But they essentially closed it,my claim out with no notification to me and I had no way of knowing. I had to call back in and reactivate it. And it was a complete waste of time because I ended up doing the work that they should have been doing.

My washer quit working, it wasn’t agitating, and so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I called in, but it did it automated, which I hate. And then, the contractor that came out was an idiot. He was incompetent, was not polite and he had no personality. He didn’t say probably five words to me and the few words that he did say were rough and short. He was just not a people person. I told American Home Shield that I didn’t want him in my house again. And I don’t know why they would send somebody from Joplin. I’m in Springfield which is an hour drive.

My washer is a high-end Maytag and is now 10 years old. They ordered parts for it and I’ve seen that they got them because American Home Shield told me that the parts were being overnighted. I got a call two days after the parts have been delivered, and the contractor said they couldn't get out to see me until next Wednesday because they were waiting for the parts to come in. I knew the parts were already delivered but then he said he haven’t seen them yet. AHS needs to get rid of these people because I will never use them again. The guy seems a little shady and he was rude. I was around him twice and did not have a good feeling about him either time. And I don’t think he knew what he was doing. Even when he left, the washer was loud. I can hear it from the other side of the house.

AHS had to send somebody else out today since my washer was still broke. The guy that came out said that there was more wrong with it than whatever the previous guy said. He also told me that the transmission is out and that transmissions are expensive. The new guy was great. He was friendly and he explained stuff. He talked to me and he took time.

This has not been a good experience for me. But I’ve used American Home Shield before and I didn’t have any problems. And I would recommend them. I think it was basically this one repairman. When I called back to tell American Home Shield that the washer still wasn’t right, they were gonna send these people back out again. And I told them no. And then they said they were gonna charge me another service fee, and I told them no. And I did that all via chat because I was on hold with the girl the other night, who said she had to call that guy and get him to sign off on it before they can assign it to somebody else. And then she hung up on me. It was like she told me that I didn’t have a choice of who I wanted to come to my house. So, there needs to be some training.

The plumber came out and they said they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it because it wasn’t getting any power so they were gonna have to transfer it to the electrician. We didn’t get a call back as quickly as we thought since it was the weekend but we were able to get through to somebody and they were able to help us out.

The only big problem was that the electrician they went through was on their end and not with American Home Shield. The electrician they went to was only open on Mondays through Thursdays so we had to wait for a whole a weekend before anybody could come out and look at it. But when they did come out, it was quick, efficient and everything worked out perfectly. All four people I worked with were friendly and were extremely efficient.

I used American Home Shield for years when I lived in a house in the city and they were awesome. So I signed up with them again last fall. When you submit a claim, you just go online. It's not a problem. However, I've had a couple of appliance issues. I had a call for my refrigerator and the gentleman said he was gonna order a part and he should be back with me by Tuesday. That's been a couple of months ago. It's a thermostat issue. So everything in my fridge has been freezing. I had reached out to American Home Shield several times and finally, someone got back with me and said they were not able to get the part for my refrigerator because it was discontinued. Therefore, they're gonna replace the refrigerator.

With that said, I did some research. I live in an old and very small condo. And the fridge that was offered was way too big for the area that it needs to in. I wouldn't be able to get in the door. There were other options offered to me. I can choose something myself and pay the difference. And then another option was to get the money. I found one and I'm willing to pay the difference. So I submitted the information online and then someone would get back with me. But I haven't heard back on that.

The other claim I had was for an air conditioning unit issue. It took me almost three weeks to get someone to look at my AC because everyone that American Home Shield was reaching out to was not aware that the AC is on the rooftop, which in any apartment or condo or business it's gonna be on the rooftop. For some reason, American Home Shield called two separate people to come out on the same day. So I called and told them that I don't need two people. Although, one of them had cancelled, I've been charged for both services. So now, I have a past due on my account and it's been a pain in the tail.

I have called American Home Shield hundreds of times and every time I call, I'm told that they're submitting it to have it reimbursed. Then I'll tell them that it was what the other six people had said. They tell me that they don't see where it's been done. But when they do fix something, it's done well and I've been pleased with the service. It's just that when you call American Home Shield, you're on hold forever. One day, I was on hold for almost an hour. The person came on, asked me a couple of questions, put me on hold, and disconnected me. That's really hard when you're at work.

I was able to find a company and tech came to my house but once I told him I had extend warranty he told me couldn't do anything (I had explained the whole situation once I placed the call to this company).

I've called AHS and they told me because that company was a vendor, it couldn't do the service as outside authorization (I was never told this, only criteria is that they had to be insured and licensed in my state -- also if it was one of their vendors, why didn't they send it in the first place). The AHS representative told me they would find a vendor by yesterday. Nothing yet. I've already talked to 3 customer reps today. This is very frustrating. I called AHS to let them know and they told me we would have to wait until the next day for the contractor to call them and cancel the ticket before we can get someone else out. Mind you it's 100 degrees where I live... I could not understand why we had to wait. Obviously they are unreliable since they don't show up to appointments. Needless to say we waited and they sent another contractor out. The contractor was in and out. Stated he fixed the problem.

When we returned home the a.c. was still not working. We called AHS back and advised them that the AC was still not working. They called the contractor and they say give it 6hr to kick in... I have never heard of such a thing in my life "give it 6hrs"... So we wait yet again. This is Friday so now we are going into Saturday still no air. We call AHS back and they are saying they will have to send the contractor back out. We can't get a new one and they can't come out until Monday. We asked for a refund of our service fee since the job was never done correctly. So we can hire another contractor that does come out on weekends. AHS states they don't do refunds and if we wanted another vendor to come out we would have to pay another 75 and still wait until Monday. What's the point of having a warranty company that for one contracts low end contractors and two none of them do emergency calls.

I get out my credit card and said it has to be in cash and asked if I can go to the ATM to get cash so I instead wrote him a check for $150 but cancelled the check with my bank when I noticed that my A/C was blowing out warm air instead of cold air. In other words he made it worse. The only way I was able to get them to send out a second tech was when I started cursing on the phone and threaten to cancel with them.

We've been with American Home Shield for at least three years, and this is our second house. We've lived here long, and we developed a leak in the guest bathroom. AHS sent a plumbing company out that was crappy. They said they were gonna be here in a couple of days and they wanted to come out on a Friday at about 4:00 and fix it before they close at 5:00. The plumbing leaked for a solid week, while they said they were coming out and then something came up. They wanted $2,600 to fix the plumbing, and I told them they didn't need to come out here anymore. We had it fixed for $600.

On the other hand, the AC people they sent were wonderful. At the beginning of the air-conditioning season, we turned the AC on, and it didn’t cool the house down so we called AHS and they were really nice. They sent a guy who checked it all out and said there was a hole in an outside condensing unit coil. It would have to be replaced, so he contacted them back and forth and then came out and replaced it.

American Home Shield's response could always be faster anytime there's an issue, especially with the air-conditioner during summer, but they had to order the outside condensing unit and they weren’t able to get it locally, which ran it into a three to four-day deal. It was at the beginning of summer, so we were somewhat comfortable in the house with fans, but it’s always gonna be easier if we can pick the phone and call the repairman that we know. With AHS, we had to go through the process, but it was worth it and I would recommend them.

The contractors that I worked with responded right away and got in touch with me to set up the appointment. Everybody was very professional and very helpful.

    Claims Handling

When the AC wouldn’t work apparently it was an older piece of equipment and it just needed replacement. It just wouldn’t kick in and there was strange noise on the fan. We own the house with our daughter and her family. And so, they live in the house and she is the person that filled out the claim with American Home Shield and did the work with them once they had identified who the selected worker was and she was the one that was there. It was straightforward. It was what it said it would be and we didn’t have trouble setting things up.

The young man who came and did the work was pleasant enough and he did what had to be done, and the unit seems to be working fine now. But he kept having to leave the site to get equipment or he didn’t have the tools that he needed. And when the person who supervised came, he made suggestions about other kinds of repair that weren’t any of his business. He talked about how bad their roof was and how awful the gutters were and the trusses were wrong and there wasn’t enough insulation. My daughter just said, “Thank you so much. We're very aware.” “Well, you need to fix this, da, da, da.” She wanted to go, “Dude, fix the air conditioning and go home. Okay. You're not telling us anything we don’t know and we don’t have a bucket of money to get all these fixed at once. So, we'll take care of it as we can but thank you so much for your input.”

We didn’t wanna blame him ‘cause he was trying and the air conditioning works now and isn’t making any strange noises. We're glad that we bought the warranty and I'd recommend AHS. Our son-in-law is a real estate agent and he said they always recommend AHS to buyers. I advised him a couple of weeks when it got hot and the AC wouldn’t work and we went, “Okay. This is definitely something that we're glad we made the investment worked."

Our heat pump was not working and AHS sent out Accent Heating & Cooling. It all went fine. The same contractor had been out here before and that all went perfectly as well. In the new claim we have, however, we haven't heard back from the contractor and it would be three weeks this coming Tuesday. And we've spent 45 minutes on the phone two different times, trying to find out what was going on.

Our washing machine that was making a horrible sound and the contractor said it was a bearing. They told us the parts have been ordered, but I don’t believe that to be the case. This was the second time this man has been out here and dropped the ball. But we haven't had the time to deal with it anymore and we’ve got a couple of different things going on with our oven regarding the claiming process of it. It won’t lock. It hasn't been a great experience with American Home Shield and I wouldn't go with them again. Communication is pretty much nil unless we initiate on our end and it has really been frustrating especially for what we pay for it. I'd tell people to get another home warranty other than AHS.

I bought a new condo and American Home Shield was recommended by people that I know who have them. When the food in my freezer wasn't freezing correctly I submitted a claim with AHS by phone and they handled it great. They were very polite and helpful, and they walked me through when I needed .The contractor was there on Monday and figured it out within a few minutes. They said it was the Freon and they fixed it so we’re all good.
