The toilet was not running very quickly a few weeks ago and we submitted the claim for that plumbing issue with American Home Shield through the internet. The online submission process was great and much easier than talking on my old phone. The contractor, Patriot Plumbing, responded right away to set up an appointment. They came out and got there when they were supposed to. They were in and out very efficiently and got everything taken care of, and the toilet's functioning has been great since the repair.

I called in a claim on my AC because it wasn't cooling properly. The company that American Home Shield sent out did good work. The service tech was knowledgeable and he took the time with the AC to diagnose the problem. He explained to me that the issue was because of the type of unit that I have, which is a zone unit, and that I was low on Freon. He fixed the Freon problem and he checked the motor and some other stuff on the unit. Now, everything is working correctly. I recommend American Home Shield.

I submitted an online claim with American Home Shield for my washer and then I got a response back who they had assigned to it, which was Daryl. Then his scheduler called to let me know that they had been assigned that project and asked what was the convenient time for him to come out and look at it. And then, he was there on time. He was very thorough, knowledgeable and easy to work with. He had to order a part and it was ordered on the same day. And they kept me informed along the way. The part arrived on a Thursday and I was out of town, so he was there that Monday morning. It was less than a week for the whole process.

We submitted claims with American Home Shield for three things in the last month including a garage door, a plumbing thing, and an AC thing. I file claims over the phone because they automatically assign you a contractor when you do it online and there was one that we will not use because of the way they do business and typically, it’s the one that gets automatically assigned whenever we file a claim online. The contractors generally are okay if you get a good one. When the garage door guy came, he was on time within the two-hour limit and he did a good job. And the plumbers did what needed to be done as well.
However, some contractors for two separate appointments set up a five-hour window and never showed up. I had to take off from work two separate days to stay home between 8:00 and 1:00. They thought they were gonna show up and they said they really couldn’t say. And then, one time they said they will arrive in the next three minutes but they never showed up. I waited 30 minutes beyond the window and then I finally had to go to work.
So finally after the second time, I told American Home Shield that I was just going to get a contractor on my own and that I'd not go through them because they didn’t have anybody else and I just didn’t trust them anymore. So I didn’t get any benefit out of American Home Shield because they had no control over their vendors. They don’t even have enough of them in the Memphis area. They have three companies for AC but the one I chose, which has been very reliable in the past, was completely unreliable and very uncommunicative. And American Home Shield does not take any feedback. These certain people came in the past and they’ve broken things, and American Home Shield would not make it right.
My contract with AHS has been going on for 12 years and I’m about to cancel it and try a different one because essentially, they stink. I’m frustrated. I had a contract and I had to pay a lot of extra money to get my repairs done because I could not get them to stand behind their vendors and get something done. And they didn’t reimburse me for anything. They don’t care.
Also, years ago, we had an emergency thing with an elderly person and they told us that it was gonna be three days before they could get our air conditioning done. So I had called somebody on my own. Then I called American Home Shield and they told me that they'd reimburse me for the amount of the repairs but with the $75 less. The guy I spoke with gave me an email address and I sent over the information but I never got anything from them. I tried to contact them a number of occasions but the person who supposedly made the deal with me did not exist and it has been a nightmare. But we’ve kept American Home Shield because we’re nervous in case something big breaks. But they really had not done a good job. They pay no attention to what their customers are saying, and I will not recommend them.
Good morning Daniel,
I understand your concerns with the several service request that you have submitted through your AHS warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and address any unresolved issued that you may have regarding to AC claim.

My ice maker was literally spitting water at me. Then the technician came out and looked at it, diagnosed the problem, ordered the part, brought the part back out and then fixed it. He was very professional and nice. He showed his credentials right up front and I never had to worry about who he worked for. He always made sure he had showed his badge. He texted me and said his name, badge number and the reason he was contacting me. So it wasn’t like a solicitation. He was very specific that I had made the contact and that was why he was contacting me.
It was about two weeks to get a result from the time I filed the claim. It was because he had to order parts and he only comes over this side of town every other day and I was out of town. So between the two of our schedules and ordering the parts, it didn't work out well. And when I filed the claim online, the website doesn't have all the options but it was okay. Also, there were so many rules and regulations and what I got was different than in writing and what they were telling me that I was allowed to do. They want me to send in writing every time. I was like, “I just sent it to you.” And then they said, "Well, you'll need to send it to me again this time." It was very annoying.

The dishwasher's handle wasn't locking and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. The online submission process was fine, easy, and user-friendly. The contractor came out the first time and sorted the problem out. But the only thing was that the technician had to go back to order the part, so the repair took three days long. But other than that, everything has been working well since the repair and I'd recommend American Home Shield.

My father-in-law had a bunch of problems when he bought his house. So, he told us about getting a home warranty. We searched for one and found AHS, so we went ahead and purchased it. The reps of AHS were friendly and they were quick on getting somebody here when we had an issue with our AC. I called and then they said it would be long till the contractors could come out but the contractors called me the next day. The contractor was also able to repair it the same day and I’m in Florida, so that's great on an AC. The contractor was also very friendly and was a gentleman. He was really knowledgeable too. He even told me some other stuff that I could do on my AC like clean it up to keep it cleaner, and what would make it last longer.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my washing machine and it was easy. It turned out that the washer's drain was clogged and it was an easy fix. The contractor was late. I was probably the last scheduled appointment of the day anyway and he called me to let me know he was going to be late. But he got here and took care of it in less than half an hour. But with the AC, we have a whole different story.
When I’m on the phone with American Home Shield everything’s great. They’re trying to resolve this issue with the air conditioner but we’re going on a month now. It just stopped working on the 14th of last month and it was the day after that someone came out and diagnosed it. I’ve been on the phone with American Home Shield four times since then, yesterday being the last time, and it’s still not fixed. The contractor doesn’t wanna pay for the parts upfront. He wants American Home Shield to pay for ‘em ‘cause they can get a better price. The haggling is going on between American Home Shield and the contractor. The lady said she’d call me back yesterday and she never called back. I don’t know what’s going on.
Good morning, Mr. Brumfield. We are pleased to know that the appliance work order went through without much of a hitch. Your A/C is very important this time of year and we regret to learn that there has been some back and forth that has caused your resolution to be delayed. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist you further.

The circuit board burnt up on our dryer. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and I got a response right back. In three hours and at 8:00 in the morning, Maytag called me, so AHS got it dispatched out to them. Their secretary was very thorough and let me know everything that was going on. She also let me know when she had ordered the part and when it was coming in. And she put me on the board and said I could move the schedule. She called about the first two days then when the part finally came in, she said she’d keep the schedule for the day that she had scheduled to put that part on. It was like clockwork and the dryer has been working at 100% since the repair. All in all, the Maytag company was excellent and American Home Shield was good.

I had a problem with my AC. I contacted AHS then they assigned me somebody. But the AC guy didn’t maintain his schedule and he was not responding to me. Then I wanted to get it serviced from one person to the other person and there was no problem. The AC is working well now. I also had an issue with my fridge but the guy that AHS assigned to me never came back or told me anything. So, I was very much angry. I called him and he told me that he would send me another person to fix it because the problem is beyond his capacity. The last time I spoke to him was a month ago and until now, the problem has not been fixed.
Other than that, my conversations with American Home Shield's reps were very nice. They immediately responded to me and told me that they have assigned some contractors for both my claims. Then they gave me an appointment. But overall, I'm not happy with their service and I'm not satisfied with them. Yesterday, I got their phone number and I was to call them to let them know everything. I also want to cancel the contract with Home Shield but there is no way to cancel online and I could not find their procedure.

American Home Shield has really been a huge blessing to me. I have a rental and my last tenant really did a number on me. American Home Shield has been very responsive. They set up some professional folks and their vendors were really good as well. So I like the relationship. They have really helped me out. But I was double-charged for one service a while ago. At the time that I put in the request for the service, I misunderstood when the representative spoke about providing my card information or calling back and paying it within 48 hours of the service. I wasn’t real too happy with being double-charged. But I'm disputing that and that aside, the representatives' professionalism has been excellent. Overall, the company is great and the service is pretty good too.

The water heater and our tank broke and spilled water under the flooring of two rooms and out into the garage. And after we got that fixed, we found a leak in the wall in a pipe. Submitting a claim with AHS was fairly easy. I went online and asked for a plumber and they sent one out. Then we ended up having to pay the $125 service charge and an additional $500 for the new fittings on the water heater, which they didn’t cover and I wasn’t prepared to pay for it. So that was a big disappointment. They also don’t pay for the damages, so those are additional expenses that we’ve got to pay. Other than that, the contractors were good and I was pleased with what they did. It took almost a week before everything was hooked back up. It's working good since the repair and I have recommended American Home Shield to my son.
Good afternoon Sue,
I would like to thank you for the feedback regarding your most recent experience to have the water heater repaired. I hope you continue to enjoy your warranty!

Our heating unit wasn't working. It's the original unit with the house, so it was probably about 20 years old. And it just got so that it wouldn’t work. We have filed several claims during the last couple of years and we've had a number of different contractors come out and refill the refrigerant, work on it and replace things. This time, Air Supply Cooling came out and they did just fine. They seemed to be professional, friendly, answered questions that we would ask. Sometimes they even had to put it in layman terms so that we could understand what they were explaining. However, they weren't able to fix the unit. But they did replace the outside unit but what happens to it is that it will come on, and it will work but then we'll notice that it doesn’t seem like it’s kicking on. I’m not feeling any cool air. And so, we’ll go and we’ll look, and it will say that it’s set for 76, but it will be 80 degrees.
And it happens intermittently. You can’t really pinpoint when it’s gonna happen. Air Supply Cooling had asked us to check when that happens, if it was icing up anywhere by the unit. We never saw anything like that, because we’ve been checking in the last couple of weeks. The day before yesterday, it worked all day. No problem. Yesterday, when that happened, we shut it off at the thermostat. We then wait a little while, and then turned it back on, and then it worked again. So, they have determined that maybe it was in a relay switch or something up in the attic. And it was suggested that we replace the relay up there, which we have not yet done because we’ve been trying to monitor. So, it’s like the problem is resolved but not completely. It still needs something else. We've got a new thermostat a while back and we got a new outside unit in the beginning of May, but we’re still having some issues. We have to call it back in.
Since our policy says that AHS will replace things and stuff and because Air Supply Cooling said that we needed the outside unit we thought it was okay with the home warranty. However AHS argued with us that we went outside of our warranty and did this on our own. I sent in the paperwork where Air Supply Cooling had it in writing that they recommended we replace this unit. For a couple of weeks, AHS said that they never got the paperwork from Air Supply. And in the meantime, we were sitting here hanging in limbo.
Still, that has been resolved and over the weekend we got a partial reimbursement. I pay a premium to have the warranty and I’m just at a point where I just don’t know, but we’re wasting our money using a warranty. Maybe we’d just be better off saving our money and putting that money toward repairs and replacements if necessary. We’re getting into our hot season and we’re between Death Valley and Las Vegas, so it can get extremely hot so having an AC is a necessity for us and we appreciate having it.

American Home Shield is absolutely amazing. I have a multilevel house and I noticed that there was a waterfall under the shower. I had noticed some moisture a couple of years before but I didn’t know where it was coming from. I made the plumbing claim and it ended up being a relatively minor issue. From when I filed the claim online to when the plumber walked into my garage, it was about 21 hours. It was astoundingly fast and super professional. I had a great local contractor, Contreras Plumbing, to take care of it and they immediately followed up afterwards. It was quickly resolved and there were no further issues. I’m a realtor and so I recommend a lot of home warranty companies but American Home Shield has become my go-to. I had gone with them because I had seen a couple of claims had great results. Now, I have my convenient little story in the back pocket of “Well, let me tell you. I like American Home Shield.”

My house just has a lot of plumbing problems, so I'm sure this is not the last time I’ll be calling. I've gotten good service providers from American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

I had a water pipe that had a leak in my kitchen, and then found out that it was a plug and a pipe. I called American Home Shield and left a message to submit a claim for repair, then a rep called me and we had a good interaction. I was told by the contractor that came out that I would be paying $10 for a pipe, but I ended up paying $59. But everything has been working since the repair.
Then, even though I had put through the $75 charge in two days, American Home Shield kept sending me notifications and telling me that my payment didn’t go through, and they were charging me $75. My card number has changed, but my payment should have already gone through before I changed my card, so I was a little confused about why it took them so long to come through with the charge. They had my card number, so I don’t know why they didn’t submit it. So, I might as well have almost paid for the whole repair out of pocket. The contractor got paid from me and from American Home Shield as well.

We were on a trip and when we got home and walked in our bathroom, there was water on the floor. One of our faucets had failed. And so, I called American Home Shield, and they charged me $100 to have a fellow come out, take a look at it, and tell me that I needed to replace the faucet since it failed. I said, "Oh, gee, that’s gold. A $100 for that.” But he said he couldn't do anything about it. The sink had to be taken off, and they don't do that. So he said I have to remove the sink and move everything. And then, they'd come and replace the faucets and and then I'll have to put the sink back up.
So I worked and worked and I called them once I got the sink off and the guy said, "Okay, so let me see what we can do." And I asked if they had the faucet or not and he said he didn't know and he'd check. And so I said, "What's the deal?" He said they could send somebody out to see what the situation was. But I told him that the situation has already been fixed and that they were gonna buy the faucets. Still, he said he didn't know if they had the faucets. And I just told him to call me when they get the faucet. The next day, he called back and told me they didn't know if they had the faucet but they'd come out and fix it. I told him I needed to have it fixed that day because I was going on another trip. And he said they couldn't come out until three days later.
And finally I just told myself, "Forget it." I called a contractor who did all the work. He charged me $500 to get it all fixed. And then the people from the other contractor for American Home Shield called me back and said they'd be out here the next day to fix it. I wouldn't get that contractor again and I told them not to come and American Home Shield called me and told me the contractor would be up here to fix it. I told them it's already been done and that I paid to have a contractor come out. So finally, they came over and told me to get all my receipts together and get a receipt from the contractor, copy of his license and AHS will pay us the $250. And so I'm in the process of trying to get that resolved right now.
It was a monstrous headache. Also, AHS responds, although it is very difficult to get in touch with them. I got the telephone number and I could not talk with an individual. All I got was their recorded stuff but there was no option to talk to an associate. But they took good care of the claim I had with the microwave. The contractor came out, fixed it, and said they were gonna have to do something. And he called me back four days later and said he got the parts and asked me when he could come out. He came out and fixed it and it cost me $100. So that one went very well.

I have a contract with AHS. I requested service April 30, 2018 and as of today the issue is not resolved. AHS assigned a service contractor (Yazd Mechanical) and I received their visit May 5. The contractor barely spent 10 minutes in my house to tell me that the issue was the thermostat. I called the thermostat company and they sent a new device. I was still having the same issue so I spent 2 hours over the phone with the thermostat company trying to troubleshoot the issue. We were able to demonstrate that the issue was not the thermostat but either the furnace control board or a wire leakage.
I called back AHS May 16 for a recall service due to the same issues and they assigned the same contractor (Yazd Mechanical). The same guy showed up in my house May 18 and without doing any troubleshooting he said that the problem was the thermostat. I disagree with the technician and he said that he did not have time to do more verification that he had another call. I disputed their diagnosis and I called the same day to AHS to complain about it. AHS did nothing and I had to call back again to AHS to see the status of the order. AHS said that they did not have the diagnosis from the contractor and therefore they could not do anything. On May 24 AHS assigned another contractor (United Air Temp Heating). The technician visited my house and told me that there was a leakage in the cable that they will report to AHS so they can approve the repair.
May 30 I receive an email from AHS assigning Top Tech Cooling & Heating Services. I thought it was the contractor performing the repairs and when the technician arrived he said he was just doing diagnosis. I told him that I thought he was repairing the issue and he said that he cannot repair off someone else diagnosis. The week of June 4 I called again AHS to ask them why they did not have someone to repair rather than diagnose it and AHS answer was that the previous contractor (United Air Temp Heating) said that they do not work two stages furnaces. I mentioned AHS that it was not true, that the technician told me that there was a leakage in the wire that AHS has to authorize to repair. Still the issue not resolved and AHS is telling me that they have not received the diagnosis from the last contractor (Top Tech Cooling & Heating Services) and therefore they cannot do anything until they receive it.
What I am supposed to do? Wait indefinitely until their contractor provides the diagnosis? AHS just uses the diagnosis excuse but in the meanwhile, my system is malfunctioning. I asked AHS to get a call from a supervisor and I requested the supervisor to cancel my contract because after 4 visits and one month and a half, the system was still not fixed. She said that she would have the commercial department calling me. The supervisor just call me again June 13 to tell me that they did not have yet the diagnosis from the contractor. I said that I was not expecting her call but the commercial department call to cancel the contract. Once again the supervisor evidenced that she did not have a clue what was going on with my case. She just gave me the phone number for the department and asked me to call them directly. While I was cancelling my contract I asked her to provide me an update on the diagnosis status.
There are more details and issues but the description would be endless and I think this description is enough to demonstrate that AHS is not worthy. I believe that here there are two issues, definitely one is that AHS does not properly and timely manage the service request, contractors and client. And secondly, the contractors are abusing of AHS. The repairs that my system requires are not of their interest, they just need to replace a wire and likely they prefer to focus on big repairs (like entire unit replacement) and they just send inaccurate diagnosis so they avoid the repair. The contractor tells something to the client and something completely different to AHS but the client is not protected because AHS just go off contractor's diagnosis.
Finally, if you ask for a supervisor, they do not resolve differently than an operator. If you want to send a letter to the customer relations, there is no easy way. They do not provide you the email and they just tell you to look for it in the web. If you request the history of your case and the transcripts, they tell you to do a subpoena with your legal services. I am not going to deny that in my last call with them I was mad with them but this issue has gone beyond my patience limits.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Been with American Home Shield for close to 1.5 years now. Just had a service tech completely miss a 4 hour window and had to reschedule for next week. So I pay $25 per month, had to pay $132 for the service fee, flushed 4 hours of Paid Time Off down the drain and have to take more time off to do the same thing next Tuesday. I call American Home Shield looking for a little compensation back and get nothing. Was told they would talk to a supervisor but the supervisor wasn't available. They said the supervisor will call me back and that hasn't happened yet. I will be canceling as soon as my repair is completed. By the time this is over, it would have been financial benefit for me to purchase a new dryer myself.
This company simply does not 'care' about customer satisfaction and does not put the customer 1st. After reviewing my account, I also noticed that my monthly fee increased and I don't remember seeing any communication about it. I specifically bought this 'Home Warranty' for convenience. I knew that it probably isn't a smart financial decision, but still thought I'd give it a try. Turned out to be a nightmare.
Do yourself a favor and put more money in your pocket by not going with a Home Warranty Company (especially American Home Shield). If there is an issue with your appliance you can quickly watch a 'how to' video on YouTube and order the part online (saving you much more money). Plus if there is a major appliance issue to say a furnace / hot water heater or a leak in your house... I am sure (based on the other reviews) that the Home Warranty doesn't cover everything and would mean more time / more money / and more headache.

1) $780. Return premium still owed nearly 90 days after warranty cancelled. 2) Unpaid claim 90 days. 3) Deducting premium from my checking account on a home I no longer own. I cancelled the warranty with AHS and replaced with substitute warranty company at the recommendation of the real estate broker and title company due to the many problems they and other clients had with AHS.
The representative for American Home Shield appointed a special representative, Jade **, to assist me with all of these issues after months of attempting to handle on my own. The representative promised, in writing, to update me every day or every other day as to the status. I have heard from her possibly three times in the past month, and each time was because I initiated contact with her. Anything that she promised to do never took place. She has done nothing to assist me. I ended up with a false sense of security and matters just got worse as a result. I am still waiting for the $780 that was due back to me in March.
I have not received anything in writing, or verbally, as to why they did not pay the claim for the dish disposal replacement in the home I purchased. I believe by law this is required within 30 days of the claim being filed. I just hired a separate plumber and replaced the disposal and took care of other plumbing concerns myself. The home inspection report clearly stated that the disposal needed to be replaced. (This was filed under the warranty purchased by the prior homeowner.) The company refuses to put anything in writing explaining why they refused to pay for same.
The company promised to stop deducting premium payments from my checking account on the warranty that was cancelled on a home I no longer own, however three months later they continue to do so. I finally contacted my bank and placed stop payments on all further withdrawals. I should never have trusted that AHS would stop deducting those funds. My real estate broker has been aware of this since closing back in March. Even though American Home Shield acknowledges they are deducting those payments in error, they continue to deduct funds directly from my bank account. I have notified Jade **. that I am reporting this to the state of Arizona Department of Insurance and filing a complaint for fraud and bad faith, and even that is not spark her to return my calls or respond.
I have asked her to have her manager contact me and I have received no response. The company acknowledges they owe me $780 in premium for the warranty I canceled flat on the home that I purchased in March but I am still waiting for that return premium and they refused to put anything in writing as to the status. At this point the company owes me at least $1500 and I can get no answers from them.
The new warranty company, Old Republic, responded immediately when I had a problem with the pool, and with the circuit board for the spa, And a week later they responded immediately when there was a concern with the plumbing in the new home. Those claims were paid without question. I am not one to file claims with warranty companies so this is out of the ordinary for me. It’s just nice to know that when you absolutely do need to use your warranty, there are companies like Old Republic that actually honor their commitment to their customers. I have absolutely no affiliation with either company. Just a word of warning, I would be very cautious in ever dealing with American Home Shield. I had them in the past with no problem ever. I may have utilized them twice in 12 years, but this has been an abysmal experience.

Eight weeks ago our washing machine quit working. AHS called a contractor to come out. They made it two weeks later. They decide on what was needed and ordered the parts. About a week later they came out with the parts. Could not get the screws loose on the tub and actually stripped them. Had to order more parts then. AHS contacted another contractor. When I asked him why he was calling me he told me that AHS didn't believe the first contractor. So we scheduled a day for him to come out. A week later he arrived and came up with the same parts as the first contractor. So he ordered them and we waited another week for those parts to come in.
During the wait the first contractor called again and said they had all the parts to fixed the machine. I told them to call AHS and find out who was supposed to fix our machine. Never heard back from them. When the second contractor received the parts he called again and we set up another date for him to come back (last Friday). He decided the machine was not repairable and claims has communicated this to AHS. I have called AHS and gone through their horrible wait times three times now only to be told each time that the contractor has ordered parts to repair our machine. Again the contractor has told me twice that he has communicated to AHS that the machine is not repairable. It appears that we are getting ripped off by this company. They will NOT get any more of my money and anyone I can find that will listen will hear about this. Eight weeks without a washing machine is enough. I'm going out tonight to buy a new one.

I am a first time home buyer and I am not sure if the realtors get some credit for selling American Home Shield “Whole home warranty” but my experience is they are a sham. So I paid nearly 600 dollars to have “coverage” for 1 year on most of the major systems in my home. When it started heating up, I tried to use the AC unit in my house. It was not getting cold at all. So I contacted American Home Shield to investigate. I noticed that they covered leaky pipes also and from my understanding 75 bucks was like a deductible. So a plumber and an HVAC tech was dispatched to my home. HVAC shows up, after I paid the 75 bucks to AHS had to recharge my system, and paid 220 bucks (300) to add coolant to my system. Ok sure it’s r-22 and it’s more expensive than newer coolant. So this made this entire service call, MORE expensive than if I was to hire a private contractor to come and do it. So I am into this already 900 dollars for one single call.
Then here is the kicker, I had a plumber come out to look at a leak or to find a cause of a leak. He couldn’t find a leak, he flushed my toilet a few times, ran the water down the drain said he couldn’t find anything then he left, I signed nothing. He literally did nothing. Was there less than 15 minutes. No not only was my HVAC about 100 dollars more than my other quotes, the sham business AHS charged me 75 bucks for the plumber to do nothing, he didn’t even have a tool in his hand. When I told AHS about this, customer service was kind of rude, and told me that since he was there it was 75 bucks, even though he did nothing. When I asked for a refund they told me no. So they sent someone out to turn my water on, flush my toilet, diagnose nothing and that costs 75 bucks?
Most of the plumbing places I received quotes from had free estimates. They came and looked at the problems, diagnose and give a price, not flush my toilet for 75 bucks. So I am into this 1000 dollars now, they were at the house for a total of 30 minutes, they apparently do not cover coolant costs, they charge 75 for a service call. I am a handyman, I am strapped on time and I am appalled at the way I was treated. I was on the phone for 3 hours today, multiple people and some told me they would get the refund, l for the 75 bucks, some told me that I am SOL. So please please listen, DO NOT BUY AHS HOME WARRANTY. Service calls are much cheaper. It’s not a good deal. If you call a local business, I bet you they will beat the final costs. Please don’t send another dime to them. It’s a sham.
Good afternoon Richard,
I understand your frustration with the delay in service and non covered cost you have experienced to have your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issue resolved.

As soon as we moved into our new house (built in 2010), we found that there was a leak on our side of the water meter at the street. We found that AHS does not cover anything physically located outside of the house... so $400 out of pocket on day 1. Now our upstairs A.C. is not working. It took 5 days for them to get a contractor out (in very hot Texas weather) just to look at it. They found that the Freon was low so they put in 5 lbs. (AHS only covers $10 a pound) and we had to cover the rest ($125). They would not even check to see if there was a leak at that time, but said it would be covered if it stopped working again. Go figure, there is a leak and it is not working again. They were able to get someone out in 2 days this time (woohoo), and found that the evaporator coil inside needs to be replaced. AHS covers the replacement of the evap coil but they will not cover the "construction items" to keep it in code... so another $325 out of pocket.
$850 later... If I would have just forgone this warranty and had my normal AC tech down the road complete all of these repairs, I would have been better off. I have never written a bad review on a company until now, and went as far as setting up an account here just to do so. This is how frustrated I am. You get a home warranty to protect you from these basic items and this company finds every tiny way possible to put the cost back on the homeowner. I will never use this company again and I will tell everyone I know to do the same.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have been a loyal customer with AHS since 2002. Every year I renew my contract because it gave me peace of mind. Well, last year we had a few problems so we had several claims. One was because we were painting our laundry room and our washer connection was stuck on from years of being connected. They sent a plumbing company that MELTED my faucet's box when soldering the pipe they cut to attach new faucet!
When my renewal came up this year, I called in to pay it and was informed that this year my contract will cost over $1100 when it was just over $600 last year. What?! Why?! They said it was because of the number of claims I had last year. Isn’t this the reason we buy warranty? So now I get punished for using it? Did I mention I have been with AHS since 2002? Obviously they do not appreciate their loyal customers. I’m in search of alternative plans currently. So be warned to new clients. They will charge you extra next year if you actually have to make claims!
Good afternoon Linh,
I understand your concerns with the higher price that you were quoted to renew the contract. I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the matter and resolve the issue.

Pilot light kept going out on my hot water heater. AHS sends out a tech to fix the problem. Contractor came out twice to fix the problem and then a third time to fix the gas leak they caused at my house. Today the pilot light is going out again. I called AHS and they won't fix the exact same issue I already paid to have fixed because they only warranty their work for 60 days and we are 28 days past their ridiculous warranty period. 2 months ago I requested a contractor to come out to fix my pop ups in my pool. I spent $125 to have a contractor come out to tell me that my warranty company does not cover pool pop ups. AHS could have told that to avoid the $125 service charge, but based on the reviews on this site, I can understand why they did not tell me. They are clearly a horrible company.
Hi, Jason. I apologize that you were unable to place a recall for the hot water heater issue and that your pool pop-ups were not covered. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to discuss your coverages.

AC broke on May 27th. Placed a service request May 28th. After 24 hours and no contact from AHS I called them and they said they the tech would call me. 24 hours later I called the tech myself and scheduled an appointment for May 31st. Took a half day of vacation to be home when the tech arrived. After arriving home, 1.5 hours before the tech was due I received a call to inform me the tech had food poisoning and could not make it. They said he would arrive on June 1st at 7 am. Tech arrived at 7:45 and apologized because he out till 1:00 am. Food poisoning and out till 1:00 am?
Tech looked at AC and said it needed a new compressor but he needed approval from AHS. On May 5th I had not heard anything from AHS so I called again (See a theme developing? They do not provide a proactive service.) and was told they did not get the paperwork from the tech till the 4th and it had to go through approval. They could not actually provide a service and call the tech sooner to see where the paperwork is. Are they just going to "Hope" he gets it to them and that I am ok with that situation.
Couple hours later I received a call to say the repair was approved and that I needed to contact the service company to schedule an appointment. Again, I have to drive the bus. I called the service company and they said AHS sends them the part, they are not allowed to go to the local supply house and buy it and that it takes 3-5 business days for AHS to get them the part. Here I am, now it's June 12th, no update from the service company, no update from AHS.
Again I am going to have to call them and ask what is going on. What am I paying them for? This is my 11th month of "service" at $55 a month, $605 dollars total, $108 for the service call and since they only pay $10 a pound for coolant I have to shell out another $320 to replace the coolant. Total is $1,333 for someone to take over 16 days to repair an AC unit. If I had not purchased the warranty I could have saved all that money, paid the repair guy out of pocket and had my AC repaired 15 days ago. Not to mention the $50 per day I am paying for a rental portable AC unit because the heat index has hit 105 degrees since the ac broke. If AHS's mission statement is to make the customer feel screwed over, do all the legwork themselves and pay the same or more money to get something they could have done themselves then job well done AHS. Mission accomplished.
Funny thing is, since this is month 11 of my one year contract I just received a letter in the mail to try to get me to renew for another year. Really? This is about the most miserable "service" I have ever received and they think I am going to do it twice? Right now I am more concerned about how I can get all my money back I wasted on AHS.
Updated on 07/30/2018: I honestly dont know what to do at this point. AHS has been to my house 5 times, I have taken 2.5 days off work to meet technicians. Finally they were suppose to replace my ac tomorrow and I receive a call from the service company at 4:35 pm today to tell me AHS did not ship the equipment and they have to cancel my appointment to finally fix my AC after 65 days of summer with a broken AC. I have called AHS uncountable times and asked to speak to a supervisor. None have ever been available. I have asked numerous times to have a supervisor call me back. I have never received an call back from anyone at AHS. Please, I am begging, someone tell me what I am doing wrong. How do I get AHS to actually do a repair for the warranty I paid for?
Hello Danny. We apologize that your service request has taken this amount of time to reach a resolution. I do show that equipment was ordered and should have been received by now. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist you with resolution.

I've called AHS numerous times because we fixed one thing and then something else ends up breaking. I'd go online to file a claim and then they'd send me a text or e-mail that they'll let the contractor know and that I should reach out to him to schedule a convenient time. The plumber is the only contractor that I deal with. I've also worked with him in the past and he does great work. His response time has always been the best when trying to schedule something with AHS. The experience has been okay. Others should definitely consider AHS. On the other hand, they were supposed to come back to repair something and they didn’t, so I wanted to talk to them and I jumped through hoops trying to find somebody to talk to. When the pool heater quit working and the display was broken, I submitted a claim with AHS. The tech had to order a part, then he came out and installed it. It took about three weeks before the pool heater was repaired because of the part issue. But as far as the actual work that was done, all that was pretty fast and simple. And now, the pool heater works. After that, the dishwasher also quit working. I filed another claim with AHS and they sent a tech out. He verified the complaint and replaced the main fuse inside there. And unlike the one with the pool heater, he had the part with him at the time.
I submitted both claims online and that was a whole lot easier than calling in. The communication was through emails as well as text messaging and they let me know when the techs were gonna arrive. They also verified that they received my requests via email and text message. And via online, everything was done within the day and I didn’t have to wait. Sometimes when I'd call in the phone, nobody would be there after 5 or whatever the case may be.
Other than that, the contractors who came out for my claims were both professional and they knew what they were doing. Everything was great. My toilet was leaking from the base wherein turning off the water valve was not enough to keep it from continuing to be a problem. I filed a claim and American Home Shield assigned somebody. It was on a Saturday night so I wasn’t expecting to hear from anybody up until Monday. I proactively just sucked the water out of the toilet and pulled the toilet off just to make sure that the water leak would stop. Then, I noticed that there was a bunch of moisture underneath the flooring on the wood, so I just ripped that back and I treated it to prevent the mold build-up and just left it. You could clearly see the root cause of the problem and it was a bad seal. It took about four days to schedule an appointment with the service provider. When they were finally able to come out, they said, “Oh, you removed the toilet so we can’t do anything,” and then left.
American Home Shield won't cover secondary damage. They were pretty much telling me my option was to just let my floor rot away and mold while I waited for the technician, and that was the only way they would have covered the toilet. But, I couldn’t just let my home be damaged. I ended up getting another plumber out. The fix was so simple that he didn't even charge me. He reinforced the ring, cut through the wood, made sure it was safe to put the toilet back on, and just put the toilet back on.
So with all of this, I escalated it to a supervisor with American Home Shield. I asked them to at least give me my $75 back and we'll just call it even. But, they refused to give it back and said that they dispatched a technician. And that was the same service provider I’ve had problems with from my last house. I told the supervisor to give me back my $75 back or I'd want a refund on my entire contract as I don’t see I even have a need for this warranty. She said, "Fine," then referred me to cancellation which is another phone number that I have to call.
Obviously, the contractors are incentivized to go to as many service calls as possible and not do any work because they'd still get the service call fee through American Home Shield. And American Home Shield does not really care about this issue. When the techs came to my house, I even offered them that I'd pay cash just to fix the issue. But they refused and said that they were booked two weeks out even though we were already there at the time and they could make money to fix the issue.
I’m gonna write the whole thing off as fraudulent with my bank and just forget about it. I just couldn't believe that they have this type of policy and I've been a six-year customer with them. They could have easily fixed this by just saying, “You know what, the service provider will just go ahead and take care of it,” and then we would be fine right now.
I’m a huge detractor. I do customer loyalty analytics for a living and this is so bad for American Home Shield. I’m probably gonna cancel everything and tell everybody I know, including the people in real estate who recommend these warranties for the home buyers, about my terrible experience with American Home Shield. They would probably gonna lose tens of thousands of dollars because they refused to tell those plumbers to go ahead and take care of the issue because this is not a normal circumstance. The issue I had was a gray area and the company should have processes and procedures to mitigate those gray areas and uphold the agreement and the customer’s experience, but that’s obviously not how the company is set up.

I've paid into AHS for several years. Despite their advertisements, the two times I had a Home Warranty claim AHS did not cover the repair. Both times, I had explained the issue in detail. Both times, they ordered out service people. Both times, I again explained the repair needed in detail to the repair company. Both times, I had to pay $125 service fee only to be told by the service people the repair was not covered. I would not buy a home warranty from AHS. I'm telling my family, church membership, clients and friends to avoid AHS like the plague. Don't waste your money.

I contacted AHS on 6/7/18, before 7 am, to request service of my air conditioner. By 1 pm the next day (over 2 hours later) I had not heard from AHS, nor a contractor. I then logged into my account to check on the claim... It listed the company, so I contacted them directly. The company is Four Seasons Heating and Air in Seminary, MS. I contacted the contractor and was told that I would have to call the technician to scheduled with him directly. I called him and left a message. About 4 hours later I called again and left another message.
About an hour later I sent a text to the technician introducing myself and requested a return call. When he finally called back, he said he was booked up but was going to be in my area Monday evening and he would call me with a time. Monday morning came and went. At lunchtime, I sent a text and asked for a roundabout time. I received a text back and was told he was extremely busy but would call me with a time later in the day. Monday came and went and no call from the technician or Four Seasons.
On Thursday morning I contacted AHS and they contacted Four Seasons. After being on hold for quite some time, the representative came back to the phone and stated they had a death in their family and could not fix my a/c. Then the representative put me on hold again, but could not find me another company to fix my a/c. I requested a callback, as I could not wait on the phone while he continued to search. He called me back about an hour later and said that there were no technicians available to fix my a/c. Now I have paid for a home warranty, and I am being told they can't send anyone to fix the unit.
I then send a chat to AHS only to be told there are no technicians in my area or the surrounding areas. However, I could find someone myself and pay out of pocket, and they would reimburse me after the repairs are complete. I explained to her that if I could afford to pay it out of pocket, that I would not have a home warranty. So the conversation continued to come with a final outcome if they could not offer me any help. NO AVAILABLE TECHNICIANS TO FIX THE A/C, NO COMPENSATION, NO ASSISTANCE. I think this home warranty is about to lose a customer for the second time.

It's a 94yr old woman (my mom) here & a newborn (grandchild) here. No air in this weather = deadly. I tweeted them & they sent me a tweet that said click a link and someone would be in touch. There wasn't a link there! I tweeted back & no answer. AHS or someone pls send me AHS corporate number regarding the lack of professionalism & concern AHS has shown. It's to a point now (over a month) where no air system is dangerous. Local AC comp blames AHS, AHS blames local air comp & NOTHING has been done.

I am writing this letter to inform you of a A/C unit issue we have encountered. Greenway was selected by American Home Shield to provide a replacement unit for our A/C. Greenway suggested to upgrade the unit from a 3 ton to 4 ton to cover the extra room with changing the ductwork, and this would fix the problem. We paid $7000 plus insurance paid their part and nothing is working properly. We have called numerous times, twice or more a month and we are repeatedly told nothing is wrong.
The last person who came to look at the situation from Greenway, recognized it was a complete MESS and verbalized it! But was unfamiliar with who had previously done the work from his own company!!! He suggested changes and modifications but have not provided me the documentation of the changes needed after several request. I have since contacted another company, who also indicated the job was not correct and if upgraded from 3 tons to 4 tons, the ductwork would have to be changed. American Home Shield is not trustworthy and does not stand behind good quality work nor customer services by any means.

Since the purchase of our home in August of 2017 we have had two large setbacks. One of our hot water heaters failed just weeks after purchase and more recently our AC unit malfunctioned. When the hot water heater was replaced the company that was contracted through American Home Shield (AHS) refused to replace the braided metal lines (used in new builds and the bulk of replacements completed). Instead they replaced the braided lines with hard soldered copper line at an additional cost of over $350. With the service call of $75, our total bill was greater than $400.
Just a week ago our AC unit stopped cooling. I requested service through the AHS site on Monday 6/4. The next day I received a survey from AHS asking if I had been contacted by the contractor. When I answered “no”, the AHS site suggested that I call the contractor. 6/6 – Contractor contacts me and schedules an appointment for the next day, 8 am – Noon. 6/7 - The contractor completed a portion of the repair but did not have the appropriate part to complete the entire fix. With a phone call, the repair-person verified that needed part was in stock and the repair could be completed two days later on 6/9.
6/8 – Scheduling again calls and states that the repair-person will arrive between 8 am – 8 pm. 6/9 – Morning – Scheduling calls and states that the needed part “did not come in” and explained the delay was caused by “thunderstorms in the area that prevented the part from arriving” (this part was verified to be in stock already by the repair-person). 6/9 – Late Evening – The repair-person calls and states that she is in the area with the needed part. She arrives and completes the repair at roughly 9:30 pm.
A valve failed in the central air which caused the refrigerant to leak. Since AHS only covers $10 of the $95 per pound charge for refrigerant (only 11% of the cost), our bill was again over $650. With the cost of the of the service call our total bill was over $725. A quick search of the contractor, Fast Response Heating and Cooling shows an “F” rating by the Better Business Bureau. So at an overview, we have spent >$1,100 for repairs on issues not created by us, completed by inflexible/sub-par contractors selected by AHS. Certainly, AHS has covered portions of each repair but frankly the value of this coverage is not worth the frustration that it creates.

I had to have service on the A/C unit less than a month ago. There was a 5 day wait to get a service call. The company had a 1 star rating and plenty of bad reviews online. AHS authorized me to switch to another HVAC Provider. This one had a lower star rating and more bad reviews online and a 5 day wait also. I called AHS and they only have 2 providers for the entire Tulsa Metroplex. Now almost a month later the air crapped out again and I was being told another 5 day wait for a service appointment. I sweet talked the scheduler and got a "cancellation" for 2 days away. Also AHS only pays $10 per pound for Freon. The service company charges $95 per pound. OUCH. My question is why only two HVAC providers in all of Tulsa and the surrounding cities. Also why do they have such low service ratings?

Was told he should be there within 24 hours. Based on first visit it seems there was some issue with coil (wrongly installed) and AHS says this is pre-existing condition and not covered. Not sure what is the use of warranty if the non working AC not covered. This is my first time dealing with AHS and very disappointed. Planning to cancel the service.

I have found that if you need an inexpensive item repaired or replaced this company is good about doing that. On the other hand, my $3000 double oven has been trying to turn itself on since July of 2017 and I have to turn it off at the breaker each time I use it so it doesn't turn on when I'm gone or sleeping and cause a house fire. American Home Shield has been giving me the run-around for almost a year! They say it's in their contract to repair the item but they don't have a company that can successfully repair or rebuild it. They tell me one thing and my local company that comes and does the repairs another. I am ready to sue them... and if I have a house fire because of this oven... OMG! Can you imagine!?!
Good evening Peg,

I applied to this company in 2017 for my one bedroom house. In June of 2018 I needed them to come out and look at my washer which was making some noise. After sending out two different technicians over a one week period, they told me that they won’t cover for the broken washer since it’s not normal wear and tear. I have been paying to this company for months now and now that I actually need their services, they are not covering the cost to fix my washer.
The technician stated that a part in the washer was broken and it was neglected which caused further damage. The washing machine has been working fine and there was no obvious indication that would alarm me of a piece broken inside the machine. I wouldn't have known!! It is very upsetting to me that after all these months of paying (which I could just save the money) I actually have to pay out of pocket for this washer. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone! Waste of money and time!

I am totally frustrated. I rarely use AHS and for the record, I have had AHS for 10+ years. Previously, I have had OK satisfaction. Not too much to complain about. However, the most recent experience has tried my patience to the limits. I contacted AHS at the end of March regarding my AC making a noise which my husband deduced that it could possibly be the fan. We contacted AHS on March 25 for assistance. They contacted Total Air, the subcontractor, to come see about the issue. They came out and PRIOR to work, we were told we had to pay $550 for Freon and what should have taken about an hour took over 8 hours. At one point when my husband went to check, the technician was almost upside down inside of the unit. After 8 hours, we were told that it was the compressor, which we had our reservations about. Well, he disabled the AC and we were without air for a few days.
Fast forward, after requesting (to Total Air and AHS) that the same tech should not return, the same tech returned to install the compressor. This job also took a while and another tech had to come out and help and finally it was up and running. A few days later, the air stopped cooling again. And once again, someone came out and said that the problem was the fan, which we originally called about. So, we were told that another one had to be ordered. So, a few more days without air. In the interim I asked AHS about whether we could get our own contractor to fix it and we be reimbursed because our patience was beginning to wane. Well, we were told that AHS could not guarantee our contractor's work and if something went wrong, we might would not get reimbursed. So, we were left with very few choices.
I digress. The fan came in and they came out and we were told that the fan was not actually made perfectly for our AC, but it would work. Well, needless to say, we started to have fan problems again. My mother lost power at her house and she had to come stay with us and said that the AC noise kept her awake most of the night. My mother has cancer and NEEDS her rest. We thought that the noise was louder than usual, but did not realize how loud it actually was. We also apologized to our neighbors because we did not realize how loud it was.
Thus, again we called for Total Air to get this straight. When they came out, the tech even commented that the fan sounded like an airplane engine. However, they couldn't fix because the part had to be ordered. It was still cooling and we could still use, so we had to wait for the fan to come in. It came in on Friday, June 8 and the tech came out to fix. Well, after a few hours, the tech said that when he powered it up the motor was blown. So, not only did we not have air, but I had to prepare for an event without air. We had to leave for a short amount of time and when we returned, the tech had left without giving us an update nor letting us know that he was leaving.
So, now we are beyond irritation. We even called the emergency number over the weekend to see whether we would get a return call. And we did not. Therefore, we were left to wait until Monday. After an email detailing our discontent, we got a call on Monday morning. My husband and I both got a call. The person I spoke with said that the part was faulty off the truck. The tech on Friday told me that when he powered it up, it burned up. So which is it.
This has been over 2 months of dealing with this issue and my AC is not fixed. And although Total Air is to blame with the AC being worse than what was originally called for, AHS is ultimately responsible because they sent this subcontractor to us. We called AHS to speak with someone with authority 3 times on Monday and after some discussion on why we couldn't speak with a supervisor, each person put us on hold until either the phone hung up or we hung up. Neither phone call was under 20-30 minutes.
One would think that after all this time that someone, ANYONE with authority, would have reached out to us to see what could be done to rectify the situation i.e. a new unit, compensation for a hotel stay, etc. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We asked for someone with authority to contact us and no one did. We got this basic response that the representative was reading from a prepared response sheet of what to say to customers in certain situations.
I got AHS over 10 plus years ago to be of assistance should something happen to appliances and or other stuff in my house. I rarely ever write reviews, but the horrible service has warranted this post. All we wanted were two things 1) for our AC to be fixed properly and since it hasn't 2) some consideration for possible solutions on how we could be accommodated. And as of June 11, 2018 neither has happened. I live in South Louisiana where it gets extremely hot and we have been beyond patient since the end of March.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I found some black stuff from the hard water so I asked someone to look at my water heater. It was easy to submit the request, which I did online. But the problem was that it was never clear for me that some of the options were not there and I could not find it. They only have the water heater but not very specific about the items they offer. It was not very clear until I got a call from someone and they said that they would take care of it. When the contractor came, he was very professional in figuring what kind of things and what I needed to do. He said that he replaced the things and if I still have the issue, I need to do more. The guy was good, but the issue hasn't been fixed yet and is still there.
The contractor suggested to wash it and repair some of the things. Then, he offered $400 for which I thought was too expensive. I can’t replace a new one for the part so then, I just left it there. I spent $75 but it didn't fix any problem for me. If I request another one, I need to pay another $75. I was disappointed. I'd rather directly ask someone if they can help do an estimation to fix the problem. And if someone says it's for $100 then I will probably ask them to do the repair.

I submitted a claim with AHS for the little valves that are underneath the sink that could turn off the hot and cold water. I filed it online and it was a pretty easy process. My only complaint with that is, when you go and try to submit stuff, a lot of times you can’t really submit exactly what your problem is. They don’t have enough options to accurately describe all the problems you submitted.
Two service techs then came out and they looked at everything and I had several different issues. One valve has a broken handle, one was dripping, and some were broken where they were seized. They ended up replacing six of the valves. They didn’t have enough parts on the truck to be able to do it that day so they came back the following day and completed all the repairs. They worked through the repair quickly but they didn't completely clean up some of the excess parts that they had from the valves. But other than that, it was fine.
I've used AHS for a few things. They've done a really good job on the heating and AC repairs, but when you get into special issues like plumbing, you may have a tougher time getting your problem repaired. Also, you pay a monthly fee to them but that doesn’t mean that you’re going to get every problem that you have repaired for the $100 fee. You may end up having a repair and they’re only gonna cover up to a certain amount of it. I would like a letter written out that it’s not guaranteed you’re gonna get everything that breaks in your house fixed for your service fee.

I wasn’t expecting to call American Home Shield nor were we expecting a problem up here in our summer home. I went online and got immediate response from them. It was late at night and the next day they took care of it. I’m pleased with American Home Shield but the individual that American Home Shield chose to do the repairs ordered a straight AC unit and not a heat pump. It took a week and a half to get it changed. I called AHS to check the status of the correct outside unit and the rep was very nice. They wanted to help with what they can do. They told me the unit was ready for pick up on Wednesday but they didn’t get it until Friday. We were just glad to get it fixed right away.
I called the contractors and left a message with them. They called my wife and said they will be out and when they were gonna be here. They were here on time but I didn’t know because looking at their truck, you wouldn’t know it was an AC repair. The technician hooked up the new unit and it still wouldn’t come on. So he looked at it and found that a fuse was blown. He didn’t have a fuse so I went to see if I had one but I didn’t have the correct type. He said he didn’t need it anyway so, he just took that out of the system. I talked to some guys after that and found out that it was the safe that operates the circuit board if it got a power surge. And I didn’t feel like booing him anymore so I just got another person. It came down to nothing for me.

Also, I wasn’t too happy with the company they sent, Complete Comfort Systems. They charged me $225 the first time the technician came out and he did not even come inside to check the AC unit. He only put some Freon on the outside. But the tray inside had water in it so I had to call him back.
I called American Home Shield but the technician couldn’t get back out here until the Tuesday after Mother’s Day. We had a back-and-forth issue on the phone and I told him that as a service repairman, he should’ve known to come inside to check the unit inside as well as the outside. Then he would’ve solved the water in the tray. We had a disagreement and he was kinda arguing with me. I told him I would stop the payment but I called American Home Shield and they told me not to stop the payment on the tech so I didn’t do that. He unclogged the unit inside to get the water out of the tray and the AC is running fine now. But the experience was not good and add to that the price he charged.

My AC unit went out so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield both online and over the phone. My interaction with their rep was awesome. When I reported the issue with them, they immediately took over and fixed it for me because at that time, I was out of town. So they got the contacts going and told me when the people would be here and they were here. They called and it worked out perfectly. The contractors were excellent.
It's easier for someone to buy a new unit instead of someone coming in and willing to do the leg work, to troubleshoot and see what the deal is. This gentleman that came out, which was excellent, did not stop until he found out what the problem was and it took him about three different times ordering three different things to fix the problem. To me, he went above and beyond. He even came in on the weekends when they were closed. He came in to make sure that the problem was resolved. He also gave me his personal cell number to call him no matter when if it did go out because the temperatures are well over 100 here. Since then, the AC has been great.
I'd tell my friends to definitely get American Home Shield. It's a service that you can't beat because you never know when something might go out and when you need immediate help. We submitted the claim for that issue with American Home Shield online. The online submission process was awesome and very user-friendly. AHS put a rush on the service order because of the medical problems that we have here with the air condition and the breathing unit, and they did this in a very timely manner. The technician that came over to work on the unit was really knowledgeable and the service was excellent. We determined that part of the problem had been the pressure in the AC unit and the condition of the condenser didn’t seem to be a problem for the actual functioning of the unit. It had frozen over into a big ice cube and all they did was bleed a little bit of pressure out of it, and our AC has functioned perfectly since then.

I wanted them to check my water heater and my outside water hose bib, and the person who came didn’t do anything with the water heater because he said he couldn’t drain our water heater if it hasn’t been drained every year. It would have rust in it. But my water hose is much better. It didn’t leak anymore. Additionally, he also fixed my faucet.
With American Home Shield, I didn’t like that you pay before you get your service and that didn’t make sense. But they've changed it, and it looks like they will charge your card after you get your service done. I also don't like that they don’t give you the opportunity to cancel if you want to. Every year, they just automatically renew me when they ought to ask and let me sign something saying that I wanna be on for the next year. American Home Shield is pricey being that I don’t use it. I’ve had AHS way from my other house and I didn't use it a lot. And the price goes up as well. With the amount I pay now, if I put the money in a jar every month, then I will have the money for whatever needs to be fixed. When I got it years ago, it wasn’t as expensive as it is now.

I have two AC units that are about three years old. One of them, my upstairs unit, went out. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and the first guy from Summer Breeze and Cooling who came out said that I had a leak. I asked him where it was and he told me that it was somewhere in the unit. He also told me that they were gonna put some type of leak stop in the system and that I was gonna have to pay them to recharge the unit. I agreed to that and that ended up being a $400 charge. That happened on a Friday and by Sunday, the unit was not working again.
Somebody came out on Tuesday and fixed it. He found that the problem wasn’t the leak but the coil. I told them that the first person didn’t look at the coil, that he just looked at it, and said it looked fine. The second person then told me that on the outside the unit looked fine but when you opened it up, it was completely rushing out. He also told me that he didn't have an explanation as to why that was happening being that the unit was only three years old.
But when we got back home on Wednesday after school, the unit wasn't working again! It took the same contractor a week to come back to assess the issue again then they sent the first person who came out. He told me that there was a leak in there. He put the pressure on and said that he could hear it hissing. I was standing there and he took the cover off. It was on the outside portion where he actually heard the hissing and he said it was right there. But he couldn’t fix it because he did not have a blowtorch in his truck. He told me that he'd see if their office would authorize him to go and pick up another blowtorch or if they'd send someone out. That was on a Thursday. He also told me that if he didn't come back that night, he'd be back the next morning.
However, Thursday night went by and Friday morning came along but he didn't come back. I called American Home Shield back and told them that my unit was still not fixed. I informed them that I was told by the tech that if he didn't come back on Thursday evening, he would be in the first thing Friday morning. I also told them that no one from Summer Breeze and Cooling contacted me and that they'd been out here several times. I said it didn’t make any sense for them to come here ill-prepared for a job to fix an AC unit and that from what I understood, something as simple as a blowtorch was supposed to be on the truck.
AHS then contacted the contractor and they said that they’d send somebody out right away. However it wasn’t until about 7 o’clock that I got a call from somebody saying he was on his to Home Depot, that what he had wasn't gonna be sufficient, and that he was gonna go buy a blowtorch and he'd be back. It was sometime between 8:00 and 8:30 that my unit was actually fixed that Friday.
I submitted a claim for the same unit before and from what I understood from a supervisor, it should have been an expedited call because of the temperatures during that time. I told the contractor that it was in the attic but the people who came out did not do anything because their insurance warranted them to have a pull-down ladder. I had a ladder there for them but because it wasn’t a pull-down ladder, they could not service or work on the issue to find out what was going on. The person that showed up called dispatch and told them what was going on. Then they wanted to give me an appointment two days in the future. But it was freezing and I could not wait two days, so I called someone else to get it fixed.
Aside from that, American Home Shield still wanted me to pay the $75 for the people who showed up who never asked any type of questions to ensure that they would be able to service the unit. They also didn't do anything! Eventually, after three months and calling four times for the same issue, I finally got in touch with someone that has been with American Home Shield for a number of years who had the authority to take care of the issue.

My washing machine had a problem with the panel. The light would all come on and it would start beeping when it wasn’t in use. It was very frustrating and aggravating. The contractor sent out by American Home Shield was nice and wonderful. He determined that it was the panel. However, it took over a week to get the part. It was an old Kenmore machine and I have a feeling that was why it took so long to get the part. Nonetheless, it didn’t take long for them to do the work.

I got divorced and I don't have anybody here to do any of the minor repair things that I need to get done. So, I got an American Home Shield home warranty. I have been with them for about eight months now. So far, I've only filed a claim once and I did it over the phone. The rep was great. They were right on it. They had Budget Rooter out here right away. So it was great.
However, I wasn't impressed at all with my interaction with Budget. First of all, the guy came out and he was very pleasant. All he did was he gave me a number of somebody else that I needed to call and I called them. They said, "Well, you need to have whoever gave you our number come and remove the hot water heater so we can get behind here and take care of the damages." But I was charged for the contractor to come and take the hot water heater out when this was all supposed to be within my claim and I already paid my deductible.
And then, the rep said that when they put the hot water heater in, it was gonna require all these upgrades, and I was gonna have to pay over a $1,000. And so, I decided to get an estimate from other companies to find out, and I saved $700. I finally just did a payout and went to another company. The guy took the hot water heater out, he was supposed to take it away but he didn't. He left it sitting on the side of my house. It so happens that in the next couple of weeks, we had neighborhood trash pickup, so I had the neighborhood kids move it out to the road, and they hauled it off.

When spring came and I switched over from heat to AC, the air conditioner wouldn't turn on. I bought the house in February and we had never tested the air conditioner so I was concerned. I checked all the breakers in the house and I checked around but I couldn’t figure out what it could be. The house was built in 1929 and it had been a rental. Then it was rehabbed in the ‘90s and the people who sold it to me included the warranty as part of an incentive to buy. So I called American Home Shield. I was able to find my paperwork, go online and put in my address. It was really easy, which was good.
It took a couple of days to get the service technician to come out so it was pretty warm for a couple of days. In St. Louis, there are not a lot of days where it’s comfortable to just have the windows open in the spring. You go from heat to AC in about a week’s time. But I was glad to be able to have somebody come out. When the service technician came, he showed my mom what the problem was. There was a breaker attached to the furnace itself that I didn’t know existed. He said it just had to be flipped and he fixed it. I felt foolish but he said, “If you didn’t know it was there, you wouldn’t have known it was there.” So it was great. If the AC had really been broken, it would’ve been devastatingly expensive.

From the time they came to check it out, it was two weeks later before I got it. My wife wasn't too happy 'cause she had to wait. We had to go to laundromat. Other than that, everything was good. I've never had a problem. They've always taken care of what I needed, so I was happy about it. The technician was also professional. I just saw him a little short time ‘cause I was going to work. I call on the line and talk to a rep and do the same regular thing. It was pleasant talking to them over the phone, but it took some time for them to dispatch a technician. The microwave has been changed, but I’m still not happy with the gas cooker. The technician said he’s gonna call AHS back and give them his own findings. They say they’re gonna buy a part, but I haven’t received anything from them and it’s more than two weeks now. Everybody needs a gas cooker to cook.

My refrigerator was leaking and water kept running from it. When I file claims, I want to call directly from my phone and talk to whoever I have to talk to instead of doing it on the computer. The representative I got was very polite and spoke to me with clarity. I appreciated her and I thanked her for her service. When the technician came, he had to fix and clean something up. Then the refrigerator started working back again so that was good. He was on time and able to get it done. At first, I thought the icemaker wasn’t making ice for four whole days and I called to schedule him to come back. But before he could come back that week, it started making ice. When he called me, I told him the icemaker was already making ice. There was no need for him to come back. When it was reset, maybe it took a little while for the icemaker to be making the ice.
American Home Shield is a very good company and they always have time. I had also called in for the heater before and they were able to send somebody here who was able to do it. They also did my plumbing for the drainage for the bathroom downstairs. So I really like the service and I appreciate them a lot. This is why I keep using it.

Our A/C wasn’t cooling and wasn’t doing anything. I called American Home Shield to submit the claim, but it was weird because I was on hold forever. They were very hard to get a hold of. They said we could do it online, but I don’t really like doing anything online. The claim was for my house where my son lives, however, they took the wrong information. They were going to do it for the house on Creek Rock and I said that it was the one on Deer Creek. The A/C issue had to do something with the thermostat, so they replaced it and it took them two days to get it done. Other than that, as far as the air condition people go, they were really good. What happened was we had a net or something put in by CPS and our public service thermostat kept messing up. Finally, AHS put their own in it and it has been better.
I also had a dryer problem a while back and the technician said that there was nothing wrong with it. However, we could only use one side of the knob on the right and we couldn't use the special one. We've made do because I was tired of fighting with them and their particular appliance people. But I've been with AHS for years now and they've been wonderful. And I would still recommend them.

My wife said that out of seven loads she’d done last Monday, it only aired out on three of the loads. Almost everything has been replaced on the washing machine, and it’s still not fixed, which is very frustrating.
We had the appliance guy from Bulldog Appliance come out again recently. He looked at it, but he was not able to observe the problem while he was here. He said the company would contact us and see what they could do. It would be wonderful if the washing machine problem gets fixed and the next logical step is done. My wife went online to file a claim with American Home Shield for our AC. Water was fading into the drain pan and the float switch cut the system off. Initially, I was thinking it was electrical ‘cause my breaker was tripping. The float switch did it’s job cause it’s on the roof or ceiling and kept it from going everywhere. I sent the unit back and then it kept tripping. The first guy AHS tried to send was in a training class and he couldn’t make it. And then my wife got on that he had terrible reviews, so she went back to AHS to request somebody else, who came out midday the following day and she was happy with them. The warranty is coming up for renewal and we are gonna pick it back up for at least another year or two.

Where to start... I entered a service request due to a burst water heater on Saturday 6/9 at 1413. This was my first encounter with a warranty company, so I also reached out via online chat to seek guidance on what to do next. Here are where the lies start. I was told that they hadn't assigned a contractor yet, so to call back in 2 hours. I called AHS back about 3 hours later and was told that AHS has 24 hours to assign a contractor and 48 hours for repairs. I was given the option to pay upfront and be reimbursed, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I called and checked the status all day, only to be told that a contractor still hadn't been assigned. At 0944 6/11, I received a text message that a company had been assigned. I reached out to the plumber and they agreed to come by 1200 same day. The contracted company showed up and was very professional.
After his inspection, he called AHS for authorization to start the job. AHS didn't agree with the price quoted and advised that they were requiring a 2nd opinion. (At this point, we've been without hot water for 3 days.) I receive the contact information for their 2nd opinion, but first I call AHS, to question the needed second opinion. After all, I originally was the given the option to pay whatever amount out of pocket and reimbursed.
The female that answered was less than helpful and extremely rude. (Are their calls REALLY recorded? I hope so!) I was told that they only work Monday through Friday, so she didn't understand why I was expecting service over the weekend. Now, at no point over the weekend were business hours mentioned to me. I had just spent 2 days waiting for a contract assignment that wasn't going to happen until Monday! I eventually asked for a supervisor. I was put on hold for 45 minutes!!! At the 45 minute mark, the line was picked up and disconnected. More on this later. I call the 2nd plumber to only be told that they can't come out before Friday afternoon. That won't work.
I call back to AHS speak with someone else. He says the only thing he can do is assign it to another contractor. I ask for clarification about the second opinion; after all, they were willing to reimburse me for whatever amount just yesterday. So, I ask him... had I randomly chosen the company that provided the first estimate and paid them out of pocket, would AHS have actually reimbursed me the full amount? He couldn't tell me for certain that I would have been reimbursed in full. WHAT? So, then he assigns it to another plumber. I call the plumber but they also can't come out for 4 more days. I'm beyond upset at this point!
I call AHS again! This lady wouldn't say that the other employees had lied, but did say that requests made over the weekend will not be handled until Monday and she couldn't guarantee that I would have been reimbursed in full. She offered to find another plumber. I again ask for a supervisor, when I'm told that they have no way to transfer calls to a supervisor. Remember earlier when I sat on hold for 45 minutes? For what? So that girl could take a nap, go for a walk, take a lunch or whatever she did, as I stupidly sat there hoping for a resolution? UGH! After being lied to repeatedly and still no hope in sight, I agree to be set up with another contractor. Of course, it's almost quittin' time so I'm told that I wouldn't be assigned to a 4th contractor until sometime Tuesday.
So, it's day 3 of no hot water. And I have no idea when they'll find a contractor to replace my water heater at an agreeable to AHS price. I have small stinky children who desperately need soap and water applied to them. So, I've decided to pay the first plumber out of pocket to come tomorrow and replace it. I'm out the $610 that AHS so willingly took when I purchased the warranty, the $75 service fee that they happily deducted from my account for today's service call, and I still have to pay the $1100 to replace my gas water heater tomorrow.
Thanks for nothing AHS. Unless one of you choose to let my family come to your home for showers and to do laundry? Save the lies and runaround. I'll just take a 2nd day off work to be home for the plumber to come out. I definitely would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone. Don't waste your time or dignity!
Good morning, Jackie. I apologize that you have had to endure this time without a working hot water heater and countless phone calls that have not resulted into a resolution. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist you further.

My recent experience with AHS Insurance Company was very disappointing. I have submitted two requests on 05/29/2018 for both our cook top and dryer that both broke down. AHS sent their appliance contractor Accord Appliance on 05/30 for the cook top and supposedly also for the dryer, and the technician diagnosed only the cook top and found a part is needed to fix the burners. The technician came back on 06/05 and told us they are still missing some parts that need to be ordered.
Today 06/11/2018 I finally got hold of them and informed me that they are still waiting for the part and have scheduled us for a visit on 06/14/2018. This length of time put us for almost two weeks without a cooktop. In addition, every time I called Accord Appliance Office – it is very long hold and they do not answer the call but returns the call few minutes later if you leave a voicemail. There is a lot of phone tagging with this contractor. In addition, the same Accord Appliance Company refuses to set an appointment for the diagnosis of the dryer and they keep telling me that AHS has not given them a ticket to check on the dryer appliance.
Both AHS and Accord are pointing fingers to each other and in the meantime we are left with no cook top and dryer for more a week and a half now. By the way, since I started calling AHS and asked for a supervisor to help me, I have never been able to talk to a live person. Also, the service fee has been collected already from my credit card and my cooktop is still not fixed and worse now since before Accord messed with it, we have burners working but now all burners are not working and torn apart.

AHS is by far the worst home warranty company we ever have seen. We have two issues we have called on since we got our policy. The first one was a minor plumbing issue where the primary vendor they use in our area is a massive scam artist working with AHS to make incorrect diagnosis so they are not covered within the contract AND to then attempt to collect thousands of dollars for unnecessary repairs out of pocket. After demanding a second opinion, a junior plumber fixed the issue which was simply a timer on the water heater.
Our second issue is still ongoing. We have a faulty oven which has had a repair person out three times and has recommended the oven be replaced. Rather than do that, AHS ordered the repair company to remove the motherboard and ship it out of the country for repair. They are saying we will be without our oven for 1.5 to 2 months and that should be acceptable (even though the solution is not guaranteed to work). What a complete joke. Our latest call to customer service was a rude lady telling us that it is standard practice to do the above things and that customers should just deal with being without an oven because she does not use hers that much... I hope that people get wise and realize what a scam artist this company is.

Two hours later received a call that someone would contact us within 24 hrs. Finally heard from them the next morning. Was told earliest appt. would be Monday. Got another called telling me for an extra $50 they could have a service man out at either 8 am or 12 pm. I chose 8 am. We had to kennel our two small dogs because it was too hot for them and decided to stay at our son’s house for the night. We left early to be home in time for the serviceman.
At 10 am received an email that someone would be here around noon. Cancelled their serviceman and called a local AC company. Even though it was a Sunday, this company had someone here within 45 min. The problem was fixed in 10 min! After talking with this service man about our runaround with AHS, he waived the trip charge. Our bill was under $300 and we had cold air within an hour.
After reading all of the reviews, I doubt that the problem would have even been covered under our contract. We’ve paid for two years and never had to make a service call. We have been American Home Shield customers going on two years. Our realtor highly recommended our purchasing this program since the home we were purchasing had an older AC unit. When the unit started blowing hot air, we called AHS. They sent out Air Link Mechanical who temporarily fixed the problem. A few more months went by and our unit started making a very loud noise. We called again and AHS sent out Air Link Mechanical. This time we were told the compressor was bad and we had two choices. Either have AHS replace the compressor, a covered part, and pay up to 2,000.00 in Freon since it was an old unit, or buy a new AC unit. We were strongly encouraged to go with the new unit because "AHS will just replace each broken part on the old unit as long as parts are available for it for up to the next 7 years and you will be paying high cost to keep running your old unit."
We ended up getting a new AC unit with a different company than Air Link Mechanical. American Home Shield never paid to replace our compressor even though the company they sent out to fix it said it was bad. When we tried to speak to AHS about our situation we were told that Air Link Mechanical only wrote up our compressor as "loud" and not as having gone bad. We were told that we had to contact Air Link Mechanical to have them resubmit the paperwork saying the compressor was bad. We called three times, but the service technician did not return any of our calls. I feel AHS knowingly partnered with a company with poor customer service. I believe AHS should have done more to help us resolve this issue. We were left with a big problem and nowhere to turn for help.
When I called to cancel our AHS service after I had tried to come to some resolution to no avail, I was told that I have already paid 160.00 towards this year which they cannot refund and that to cancel I need to pay 26.00 more dollars to cancel our contract. I just want people to know that if you are purchasing AHS in hopes that they will help you repair or replace an older AC unit, you might want to beware. I paid about 750.00 for AHS and they did not come through for us.

AHS uses no name companies that deliver less than stellar service. I have had a few service requests since purchasing our home 3 years ago. None of the contractors have resolved my problem. One plumber literally just said "I don't know what's wrong", took my $75 service fee and left. An A/C guy came out last year and replaced a capacitor, but that same capacitor went out again and had to be replaced this year, so they clearly put either a very low quality, or a used capacitor on my unit. My A/C went out on Friday night. I called and set up a claim because the website wouldn't let me log on (still won't).
They said the contractor was open on Saturday and although they had 24-48 hours to call, they should call first thing Saturday morning. By 11:00 am, it was 80 degrees and climbing in our home and we still hadn't received a call. I called AHS, they checked with the contractor and I was told that they couldn't come out on Saturday at all. So I called a reputable company, and they were there in an hour and a half. I had to pay $300 to have the capacitor replaced for the 2nd year in a row. Bottom line, I have been paying $60 a month for 3 years for nothing. The ONLY reason I am keeping the warranty is because I hope that should my A/C go out completely and have to be replaced, that AHS would actually be worth the money. My confidence in that however, is very low.

At this point I crawl under house to look at this temporary fix. It is a line running to a vanity sink and has several joints that leak could be coming from. Very disturbed about this for this is definitely a situation where nothing was self inflicted. AHS is currently sending another contractor out for 2nd opinion and hope this is a more knowledgeable contractor than the first who was obviously looking at more at getting into my wallet than solving my issue. I called American Home Shield for someone to come and check the AC to make sure whether I needed a new unit or not. When the technician came, he fixed the leak in the unit and put new Freon. He said that I'd have to replace the unit eventually because it’s getting worn out but the AC is good for now. Apparently, there were leaks around the pipe outside where the unit sits. The technician who came was awesome. He was very nice, very polite and very professional. Right now, my house is cold. I would recommend AHS. In fact, my son has one now.

I wasn’t too happy about my most recent experience with American Home Shield. It was for a plumbing claim that ended up not being covered. The plumber came and told me that if it was a burst pipe, it was not gonna be covered. And it seemed like it was a burst pipe but there wasn’t a way to access it. So, I told him I wasn’t gonna pay for it if it was not covered. He didn’t really seem to verify with American Home Shield if it would be covered or what it was. So, I paid a $75 fee for him to say, “There's nothing we can do that’ll be covered under the warranty.”
Good afternoon Steven,
I understand your concerns with the denial to have the plumbing issue repaired.I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve your most recent experience.

Not all the buttons or sensors were working on my microwave so I filed a claim over the phone and had an awesome interaction with the AHS rep. They called back and because of my tight schedule, they set the appointment four days later. The Sears contractor who came was very informative and nice. He ordered the part, came back and replaced it. I was totally satisfied with American Home Shield. I may pay so much a month, but if I was to have somebody out for the service without AHS, it’d cost me more.

I only submit claims on the phone and the people I've spoken with at AHS were fine and courteous. We had two contractors come out. One of those was Pro Electric who came out for an attic fan that blew off. I think so much of them that I just hired them to a sizable project right now. And overall, we had an absolute wonderful experience with American Home Shield. I would recommend them to anybody.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield not having any idea what the issue was, but obviously knowing that there was a problem with our gas stove. So I put it in, kind of explained it, and the website is user friendly enough that I was able to just submit it and feel good about it. We immediately got a phone call from a contractor who said they were coming out to look at it. And so they called it a gas leak, but that’s a scarier phrase than what was going on; all the rubber seals were shot on the gas stove. So, it got repaired and the stove top now works great.
I had a terrific experience with the contractors too. I would refer both that appliance repair company and the plumbing company we had if somebody didn’t have coverage with AHS and needed the appliance repair or plumbing services. I have referred AHS as well to friends and family because I’ve been really pleased with the service. It’s a good policy for homeowners to have some peace of mind. If they use it great, if they don’t then I think the premium is still certainly worth the risk mitigation that it provides. And we’ve been appreciative of the experience we had with AHS.

After a week, we got a brand new oven. But the guys who brought it said they are not qualified to install, so they left it there. After three days, Dan showed up and installed it. American Home Shield is a very good company and I have been with them for 10 years. I called them recently since my refrigerator's generator was leaking. My interactions with the reps were excellent and they guided me through the whole process. They did their logistics and sent out the technicians to address the problem.
The technicians that came out were excellent too. They helped me take the food out of the refrigerator and put it back in. They were very professional, cleaned the work area, and met the safety standards. They unplugged the refrigerator and did everything they could. They tried to address the problem and told me what was wrong, and they also let me know why they couldn’t get the refrigerator fixed. We had a second opinion and it was the same. Then AHS replaced my old refrigerator in a timely manner and I received a new one. I was very happy with the service and would highly recommend to my friends that they buy an AHS warranty. Repairs would be very expensive if they would get a contractor themselves each time. I would rather have a monthly payment. Having the insurance from American Home Shield gives me peace of mind.

Our experience with our washer claim with American Home Shield was poor. Our washing machine broke and it took them under four weeks to fix it, which was pretty much ridiculous. The contractor was out here three different times. The washer guy didn’t really seem to know how to fix washers. He seemed like a nice person, but not very capable. Nevertheless, eventually, it got repaired. Every once in a while, I still get a code. But, it is not enough to open up another ticket. So, once it breaks again, I'll have to open another one. Also, the people who came out for our air conditioning claim were okay, and its performance after the repair has been fine.

American Home Shield have sent three people total to my home and they were competent. The first time, Sandy from Crispy was one of the major guys and he didn’t say very much. He had an assistant who was friendly. The second time, the guy that came out and diagnosed the problem was somebody I hadn't seen before and he was personable and seemed very good. And today, the one who came out was Sandy. He arrived on time and did the work. It’s pretty much done now. He said that they had to order the tray to go underneath the unit in the attic and so they're gonna have to come back out and put that in. But there shouldn't be a problem with that because fixing what was clogging the line means it shouldn't cause the compressor to freeze and the melting ice won't start filling that tray and risk my filling. So, if it takes him a couple of days, that shouldn't be a problem.
But it's extremely hard to get in touch with them sometimes. When they were here doing the other the work, they answered the call immediately and showed up at that first time. When they came out and did the work, they asked if I wanted to sign up for the annual air conditioning maintenance thing and he explained all of the different things that they would do, coming out, cleaning the compressor, checking the electronics, the electrical connections, and so forth. The price was a little high and I thought about it. I was gonna ask them if they can give me a little better price. If they can, I'll do it.
So, I tried to get back in touch with them. I called, and they said I have to talk to Sandy. The person that answers the phone said she’d leave a message but I didn't get anything back, so I called again. I got the voicemail and left a message but I didn't get any return on that as well. I found their email, so I sent an email but no answer on that. I found their website and it has a contact form on it, so I filled that out and again, I didn’t get a return on that. But when they get a message from you and then I call in, they are able to see it on their computer. They also seem to be very proud of the fact that they are American Home Shield's representative for the area and they have been pretty quick. It wasn't too many days since I called AHS and now the problem is fixed.
Also, when they came out the first time, they put in a capacitor and it seemed like the problem went away, but then I had to call back in later since I was still getting the problem. So, in one sense, what they fixed the first time, I don't know if that capacitor needed to be fixed. I'm assuming that the block in the line is the real thing because I remember having a problem like that with the AC before that if something overloads the compressor, it will freeze and then it has a safety thing that shuts it down. The symptoms look like what we had this time, where the temperature goes up and up, and up and then, later, it will start over again and it will run. I just don't know enough to know if it was all necessary or if it should have been caught the first time. But I’m very happy with everything except the fact that American Home Shield is not covering any part of the $750 and it should have been covered.

They came out four times on it and it felt like they were putting a Band-Aid on the washing machine. My latest claim was when N & K appliances did my refrigerator. They were great and very professional. They explained what was going on up to the extent I needed it since I wasn’t that up in their business. I called AHS when they sent a notice saying they went up $30. They said that instead of going up on the deductible, they just decided to go up on everybody’s premium. Other than that, they’ve been okay. When I got a problem, normally, I can call them and somebody gets out here and gets it fixed. We've renewed the policy from American Home Shield when we bought the house. The house had an old AC unit and if it needs to be replaced, it has to be completely replaced. If it gets to a point where the AC failed to repair, we’re gonna need a unit at $10,000 so the realtor said we should just keep the home warranty. The AC just won’t die. It just stalls once every year or two and the techs would come out and they'll fix it for $75, which the copay is, and then they move on. When our air conditioner died, we submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was alright submitting a claim. The contractors who came were good. I had a broken sump pump and my basement was flooded. And then, I had a blockage in my plumbing line under my basement, which ended up being a broken plumbing line. I went online and filed a claim to American Home Shield. Their customer service was great and their contractor came out within two days. The first claim, the pump, the contractors had to come back because they didn’t have the right pump to put in. And AHS said they do not cover it. I paid the contractor directly and they came back. Two days later, my basement is flooded again. The pump that they put in didn’t work. They came back again and fixed it. They said that the pump that they put in the first time was faulty.
The second claim was the one I really had an issue with. The first time the contractor came out, they said that my drain was blocked. It happened before. A 30-foot snake wouldn’t clear it. The contractor told AHS that it was a lymph blockage and AHS don’t cover the blockages. The contractor charged $300 for them to come out and he came back two days later with a 100-foot and then he said the pipe was broken. I was a little upset by that because how did they know it was lymph blockage if they didn’t know what it was. There were two different diagnosis and I was bothered by that. And they told us that the service would cost $1,500 a day because they gotta dig on my concrete. But they couldn’t guarantee that they would do it in one day and that's a gamble I don’t wanna take at that time. So, I found another plumber that did the whole thing for $1,000.
So far, everything is working fine now. My washer broke too. I filed a claim with AHS and the contractor came out right away. AHS replaced the whole thing but I haven't received the washer yet. Overall, AHS is good. My experiences with them have been really good. I had it for four years now and it’s been financially good for me. It solved a lot of issues but this time, I had a bad experience with the plumber. When I file a claim, I don't want that contractor to come out.

The first guy who came out didn't say anything about the leaks in the main system. He cleaned out the whole system on the outside and I was a pound Freon low so he put some in it. I had to pay 110 for my deductible and then I had to pay the company that American Home Shield sent out to me.
Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was quick and easy. When I did it the first time, I waited on the line since I didn't have their phone number handy. However, I had trouble with my refrigerator and AHS is sending out a contractor again today. This is the fourth time. The first company was American Appliance that they kept sending, and now they've decided to send out GE. They were just out Friday and they changed the part. It worked all the way up until yesterday, and then it's the same problem. The inside is backed up again and they're always coming out because it's frozen up again.
I don't know how many times they have to come out and service the same thing before they'd consider it a wash. If worse comes to worst, I'm just gonna drop American Home Shield. It's $100 or so every time and I have to throw my stuff out of my refrigerator or my freezer because it's still out. It's very expensive on my part. HORRIBLE Company and warranty!! We have had American Home shield warranty since last 3 years in Pearland, Texas. The main reason we bought home warranty was because our house was built in 1999, so the appliances are old, mainly air conditions units. Per their warranty, they will repair anything that can be repairable and replaced which can’t be repaired. I pay every month $66.00 premium and $75 + tax ($81.00) for service call.
Last year in July 2017, our downstairs A/C Unit stopped working so Technician came and injected freon gas (for which we paid $70.00 per lbs for 3 lbs - so total we paid $210.00 + 81.00 services out of pocket amount). Then again, less than a year later, we had the same problem in May 2018, so a technician from Three Brothers Air conditioner & Heating Repair came and told us that both our evaporating coils have leaks. He gave us estimates to replace our entire systems and told us that, "If you repair it’s not good idea because these units run on R 22 freon gas and by year 2020 it’s going to be discontinued".
After 3 days, AHS called me and told me that, "If you want to repair this one coil, you have to pay total $1690.00 from your pocket" ($770.00 cost of Freon + $300.00 cost of Drain pan + 195.00 drain line + $250.00 float switch + $175.00 mystic field). Per AHS, all above is not as per code. I told them that we have drain pan & drain line, not sure about remaining stuffs but they keep arguing that it’s not as per code. I was arguing with them about "why your technician didn’t tell me during his visit in 2017." They told us that, "If you want to fix this from other vendor, we will pay only $419.00 without parts", so I have to buy coil on my own. Long story short, if you accept their offer you have to pay $1690.00 from your pocket and they are only going to replace a coil that supports the old system (R 22 freon gas which will be discontinued).
This company is a complete scam, so don’t wait until you get caught up in a situation like me, their technician are only wants to sell their system instead of repair or fix problems, which AHS wants from them. I paid totally $2400.00 as premium during last 3 yrs. and my problems were not even resolved. Furthermore, they’re completely disrespectful and do not treat their customers well. I tried to argue my claim for a few weeks and was just passed down from one department to another department. They had no intention of trying to help resolve my issue and just wanted to take my money. I have never been this upset and frustrated with any other company before. Please stay away and choose another company for your home warranty.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to provide this feedback. We apologize that you did not receive the resolution that you expected from AHS. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns.

The central air conditioning unit in our house had a leak and American Home Shield's contractor came out once before and put some Freon in it. But it was really hot in the house, and so I called AHS again less than a week after that. And then a guy came out and went up to the attic, and without even taking anything apart, he said that the evaporator was freezing up on the cords up top. He was gonna charge me $1,300, out-of-pocket, for the job and with AHS paying him a couple of thousand dollars at the same time, that would be $3,000. They could’ve gotten us a whole new unit for $4,000. I have spoken to AHS and they’ve told me what they cover and don’t cover. And the guy that was working for them knew those.
I had another guy come out and look at it and basically, I need another unit. We’ve come to find out I have more leaks going on, on the outside which AHS' contractor didn’t even check. So even if he would’ve come up to fix the cords in the evaporator I would’ve still had to call him back out. And with me paying that insurance - I’m not satisfied with what’s going on. I’m not gonna pay $1,300 because it’s not fair so I’m just gonna do away with everything. It’s too frustrating having a hundred and something temperature in our house and nobody wants to come out until they get ready. And we waited over two weeks for somebody to come out there to try to look at this thing. People interested in getting AHS should find somebody else and not mess with them. The company is not right and they already know what’s going on. I hope that somebody at American Home Shield realizes that and change some of their policies.

The module inside the electric starting module went out so the contractor that American Home Shield sent out had to put a part in it. We ran into some issues because when they first came out, they thought that it was gonna be under warranty and it wasn’t. And then we went on for about a month but AHS covered it. Since then, the water heater has been alright. But it’s awful and terrible that it takes 45 minutes to talk to anybody at American Home Shield.
I understand your concerns with the hold time and delay in service that you endured to have an issue repaired. I am glad to hear that the water heater was replaced and running well. I would be glad to speak with you to address any remaining concerns.

My faucets were leaking so Steven A. Mills Plumbing came out and replaced them. I called American Home Shield to let them know that the faucets and the hose that Steven A. Mills Plumbing replaced in the kitchen were leaking and the lady I spoke to said that I would have to pay another fee. I called back and I asked if the work that Steven A. Mills Plumbing did was still warranted. They looked it up and told me it was so they came back out and replaced the part.
The contractor sent out by Steven A. Mills Plumbing was very professional and polite. They told me they needed to order another part and they would be out and would schedule another visit. They did what they said, came back out and fixed it. With the plan that I had before, I had to pay the service fee plus pay for the part. I love American Home Shield as with them, I don’t have to do that and that works best for me. It’s awesome. Get the service because it pays.

We have a service where we do checkups twice a year, and the tech said that we had no Freon in our air conditioning. He was knowledgeable and he seemed to fix the problem. He also told us we have 60 days to contest it if something goes wrong, but so far, it's been fine.

American Home Shield is the worst. I filed a claim for a microwave and from January to April, they couldn’t fix it. They never got it repaired, never replaced it, and never did anything. I even went to their accelerated service and talked to a guy named Pete. He said he was gonna call me back. He did, but nothing followed through. The people that AHS had working on me were so bad that they changed their name to try to get more people to come. I knew I used them before because they were using the same phone number. I asked AHS to switch me to Washington Appliances instead, but they wouldn’t let me change so I was stuck with these people. I had to call them all the time and they never called me. I will have to buy a microwave which cost $450. They should’ve given me money.

The pulley that lifts the garage door broke. A contractor, 495 Garage Door, came out and told me about their diagnosis with the garage. But American Home Shield said they don’t cover the part. I think it was pretty bad. It was just a part of the garage that it should have obviously been covered. And to me, it was a simple thing. AHS said that the only thing that they cover is the motor. They say that they pretty much cover everything and that if it can't be fixed, then it has to be replaced. So, I just wound up paying the garage people and they fixed the door for me. AHS didn't cover anything but they still charged me $100 deductible and didn’t reimburse any of it.
That was the first time that I used AHS and after that, I cancelled them. Most of the warranties are not valuable because they talk a good game and when it comes down to it, they don’t cover this or that, so why would I need it. The coverage was communicated to me and I’m sure it's buried somewhere on their website, what they cover and not cover, but that's something that AHS keep on the down low.

My son was happy to see Budget for a minor repair job, although they came three days later. With American Home Shield, it usually takes a long time for somebody to come out. And I told my dad a couple of times that I had some problems with them. American Home Shield should have an AC team and send somebody out to look quicker. If it was my company, I would try to deliver more. A problem with the washer and dryer is something we could all live with but they ought to have a faster response team. In that situation, they would surely help a lot of people who have to have somebody for reasons like age. Nevertheless, we are all good.

I was able to actually express my multiple problems when I did it online versus the automated system on the phone. The guy who came in was very good. He assessed both situations and checked the garbage disposal as something was wrong with it to where it wouldn’t come back on. He ended up changing it out.
And then he went on ahead and continued to go to the toilet. He fixed that but I wanna call them back because it had started running again. He never told me exactly what the problem was with the toilet. He just looked at it and told me that it was an easy fix and I let him do his business. And for the first two days, it was fine. But now, when we flush it, it will come and will stop, and then it will start running a few minutes later. It continually does that. But other than that, I've had very good experience with AHS twice and would recommend them to others.

I submitted the claim for an air conditioner recently via phone to AHS and it took five days for a tech to get out. It was right when the weather started turning hot and they were just overwhelmed. The contractor was Budget and their tech got the job done. He was in and out. This was a good experience but I’ve had some really bad experiences with AHS early on. One of them was when somebody came out and fixed my air conditioner and it wasn’t fixed properly. And it took a better part of a month to get somebody to come back out because the person who originally fixed it became unresponsive. It took many tries for AHS to bring somebody else back out. During that timeframe too, which is about two years ago, it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour if you called before anybody would even answer from American Home Shield.
On the other hand, they’ve made an improvement as the last experience was very good. They have worked on a couple of things. I haven’t saved any money because of what I pay in premium, but I don’t think I’ve lost any money either. The frustration is you’ve gotta work through American Home Shield rather than working directly with the contractor, which can slow things down substantially when there’s a problem. If everything goes smooth, it’s great. If there are problems, you gotta keep calling back to American Home Shield rather than the contractor.
This one project where the contractor became unresponsive, that was a nightmare because they would reach him and he’d say he’d be right over and he wouldn’t show up. He would only answer the phone if they called. If I would call, he wouldn’t answer. I would wait an hour to get through to American Home Shield and the rep would say, “I’ll call him right now.” She would have me on hold and then would come back, “He’s gonna call you in 10 minutes.” And he never called. This went on for a little over two weeks.

The contractor called me the following day after making the request to set up the time for the technician to visit the house. Then the technician called about 20 minutes ahead of arriving to let me know that he was on his way and I met him out there. He was able to resolve the problem within 16 to 20 minutes and since then, the AC has been perfect. This repair has made the space a lot more livable. My air conditioner broke on Wednesday, May 30th, the temperature outside was 92 and inside it was 82, so I placed a service call to AHS. The service provider assigned to my home told me they couldn't schedule a service repair until the following Tuesday. Since that was out of my contract response time and unacceptable, and nearing 5:00pm, I placed another call to AHS. Every time it's a daunting process of repeating information and long hold times. After explaining the situation again and making them aware that I have a daughter with asthma and two pets, I need service very promptly. They said they would try to find another company to respond and if I didn't hear back by 8:00pm that night, I was given AHS's emergency 800 # to call. No one contacted me.
I called the 800# at 7:30am and again had to go through the daunting process of the course of events. They finally found a service company and that was when the real nightmare started. That company couldn't get to me until 2 days later and scheduled my appt. time between 11 am-3 pm, which I took off work to wait at home. They were 2 hours late, showing up at 5:00 pm, with no call to let me know. While I was waiting and trying to contact the company to find out if and when they would show up, I looked them up online and was shocked to see their reviews online were absolutely horrible. The technician looked very young to me and as I was explaining the problems with my air conditioner, I asked him how long he'd been working in the industry and he told me he was 4 weeks out of school. I was concerned he wasn't experienced enough, however, everyone needs to start somewhere, so I let him continue his diagnosis.
He said my compressor was weak and was slightly low on refrigerant. He ended up touching a voltage wire which blew the fuse in the furnace and fried my thermostat and the entire air conditioner/furnace went completely off. At the time of his arrival, at least my air conditioner was working, although it was making a loud noise outside, but was running, just not cooling like it should. He tried several things to try and fix what he did, but had no success. By this time, it was 85 degrees inside, I was an hour late to a function, and it was getting late on a Friday, so I asked him what the plan was if he couldn't get it running. He said well maybe someone could come out tomorrow, which was not an acceptable answer and I asked if I could talk to his boss.
I asked his boss what plan B is if the technician couldn't fix what he broke and get my air conditioner working. The boss was completely rude and asked me why I didn't have faith in his technician. I replied that I didn't know his technician and the only thing I knew was that he was 4 weeks out of school and it's worse than when he got here. Then the boss told me that if I was going to talk crap about his guy then he could just leave now. I said that I want it fixed and I was only asking what Plan B was going to be if he couldn't fix it. The arguing continued for a bit.
The technician did finally fix the furnace and got the air going again and had to replace my thermostat, however, the repairs were like putting a bandaid on the problem. My air conditioner is still not cooling to the set temperature on the thermostat and I'm reluctant to start this nightmare procedure all over again with contacting AHS. When I call AHS, I can never get to someone who has more authority to handle situations like this and don't have confidence in this company. Most likely, I will be looking to cancel my contract.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience. I do apologize that you had such an ordeal dealing with the technicians. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist in resolution.

I paid for insurance that covers all of the appliances in my home. My a/c stopped working in April, I have had technicians come out 6 times, and my a/c is still not working. It's now June, over 100 degrees, around 115 with the heat index, and American Home Shield will not honor my contract. They keep sending out the same incompetent people who just say they can't fix the a/c, and put me back in queue.
Updated on 07/11/2018: Finally in mid June I hired two independent a/c companies to give me estimates to fix the a/c. They both told me that I needed the entire system to be replaced and that AHS had done repairs wrong, including installing the wrong compressor required by Texas law the first time they came out and that it ruined my evaporator coil as well as having a broken valve. They also didn't follow code when doing repairs, and left the suction line driver off the compressor, etc.
Eventually AHS said that I could have a company of my choice do the repair since their technicians were so bad, but they wanted whoever I hired to call them first. And they gave me a list of about 20 companies that I COULDN'T use. I spoke to at least 15 different companies, but none of them were willing to even speak with AHS. They all said the same thing, that AHS was a terrible company and no reputable a/c company would deal with them. By this time I was desperate and finally was forced to pay for the repair out of my own pocket even though I had insurance through AHS. At this point I have not been reimbursed for any of my expenses.
I've had so much stress because AHS didn't honor my contract, I am beyond angry about the time and expense. I had to pay $75 for their original awful technician to come out and replace a compressor that they had put in only a couple of years ago... Then I had to pay $300 for coolant, then they had to replace the compressor a week later... They wanted more money for coolant but I refused. I also had to pay $5300 for the new a/c, and $189 for two diagnoses, and of course $720 for the useless a/c insurance contract from AHS. All of this has cost me thousands of dollars, when I already had insurance to pay for it... and so much time and frustration I can't even describe it. I can't believe this company is still in business.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Recently purchased AHS. Two months in I call to have my AC fix. I set up the service request through the automated line. Quick and easy. Fast response from the HVAC service tech. Comes out to do work on my system. Says he doesn't have the parts, but he'll look into the warranties on the machines and fill out the paperwork to have my AC fixed.
Two days later, I get a call from the HVAC company telling me there's a problem with the work order, and I need to contact AHS. I follow through and call AHS. As it turns out, the work order for my HVAC system wasn't correct because the work was for 1 unit not my whole system (i.e. 2 units). The automated service doesn't ask for how many units. AHS say this is my fault because I didn't speak to a representative and used the automated line, which I will add that it is the recommended way to place a service order.
After quickly realizing that the associate I was speaking to did not have the power/authority to correct the error, I asked to speak to a supervisor. He put me on the call list. I wait a day and call back to find out I was not on the call list. After explaining the situation to the new associate, he refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor, would not even pull me on the call list, citing that no one will be able to help me, and that the problem is my fault and I should have fixed it before the technician came out to my house. Of course, at that time how would I know it was a problem?
The summary comes down to having to pay an additional service fee for something that would have been covered by the first work order. This was the worst customer service I have ever received. I was not treated with respect, repeatedly told it was my fault for using the automated line, and denied a simple request to even speak with another associate and/or supervisor. I'm still waiting to hear back about my work order and now I will have to make an additional service request, and an additional fee for an error on the part of AHS. I would not recommend this service to anyone.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Original Review: June 9, 2018
12 Year old AC system which has had several issues with it in the past year. I purchased the warranty over 2 years ago, with the understanding one day I may have to use it to replace the system. Back in time, 12 years ago when the system was put in, it was working at optimal levels, and sized for the house. Forward 11 year later, 3 different repair companies working on the AC unit. The technicians which are sent, understand how to get the coils to cool, but do not understand how to troubleshoot when their isn't enough air being pushed out of your system to cool your home.
I have been told by 2 different companies representing AHS, the AC units are not sized right. To my dismay, I don't understand how after 12 years of cooling properly, I am now undersized. So I wonder of course, was there a change in how cooling is determined? I haven't added any square feet to the home, in fact I added walls to the interior, which would only aid in the AC cooling the upstairs. I hired an AC engineer, he came in and provided an assessment, simply because the house needs to be cooled. He checked the Static Pressure and Velocity and noted the Air Handler was not properly pushing enough air.
It would cool properly to the coils, but there wasn't enough pressure to push the air through. The system has simply lost its efficiency over the years. He also noted that the unit had not properly been taped at one time, and the system would need to work harder in order to maintain the static pressure. We taped the system backup, and though we gained about 5% more air flow, it still wasn't performing at optimal levels. The recommendation of the engineer was to replace the air handler. However finding the parts to do so, is near impossible because of the change in refrigerant (R22 to 410), so it made more sense to replace the entire AC system.
I called AHS, but there isn't an option to speak to someone about the issue. They need to call you back. I didn't hear anything for 2 days, and finally I received a call, but I wasn't able to answer it. They provided a number, but then that went to queue again, and I was not able to talk to a live person. I gave up. It was easier to reach someone to get a new warranty, than it was to use the warranty. I cancelled the contract 2 days later. Lesson learned. In my opinion, Home warranties are worthless. In the past 2 years, my monthly rate has been increased, but I don't recall receiving any communication of an increase, just the credit card bill. Save the monthly fees, find a reputable vendor to service your systems who will serve you, and not the warranty company.

I contacted AHS on 2 Jun 2018 and informed them that my hot water heater was leaking. They initiated my claim and informed me that I would receive a phone call scheduling service. On Monday AHS contacted me and informed me that a service technician would contact me to set up an appointment for Tuesday 5 June 18. I asked if I could get a service tech out sooner and was told no. The next day a service technician (Drain **) showed up and informed me that he would need to call in the diagnosis to AHS and would let me know if the water heater was covered. Five minutes later he informed me that I would need to pay $600-$700 above what the warranty covers as a result of State Codes. I asked what State codes he was referring to and he stated that I had to replace a gas line and expansion tank. I informed him that my son was a Master Plumber and looked at the water heater and stated there was no code violations.
I purchased my home in Apr 2008 (new home) and there was no work done on my water heater ever. If there was a code violation, they would not have been able to sell me the home. He advised that he would call AHS. I stated that I would call AHS and speak with them. After being placed on hold for 45 minutes, the service tech departed. When I made contact with an AHS rep, I was informed that they had to wait until the service tech called in the diagnosis before they could determine any cost above what the warranty would cover. I advised AHS of what the service tech had informed me and they stated they never received a diagnosis from the technician and I should wait until they receive the diagnosis. AHS called me back later the same day and informed me that I would need to pay $650.00 above what the warranty covered. I asked why and they informed me that it was result of code violations.
I informed them that my son was a Master Plumber and he informed me that there were no code violations associated with my water heater. AHS stated they needed to go with what the technician informed them. I asked why would I need a home warranty if the cost to replace the water heater exceeded the cost of the water heater ($600)? What is the purpose of having a warranty? I asked if AHS could cover the cost of the water heater and I get the unit installed myself. The AHS rep stated they would have to get back with me. I called the next day (Wednesday) and the rep informed me that they were considering denying my claim as a result of code violations and I again stated that I had no code violations. I asked the rep if they were aware of my issue (hot water heater) and the rep advised that they were aware and stated that at least I have running water.
I thought to myself that they intend for me to heat water on the stove to be able to wash. The rep stated rather rudely that they have 48 hours to respond. As of today (Friday) my issue has not been resolved and my wife was advised today that the cost out department was running behind. Tomorrow will be one week without a hot water heater and my issue has not been resolved. AHS does not care about your issue. I have been paying into AHS since 2009 and this is the service I get. I work in the government and have had several people approach me about AHS flyers they have received in the mail. My initial response would have been to throw away the flyer, however, I will wait until my issue is resolved or not and give them the full experience.
The website states "We cover the repair or replacement of components and parts of water heaters, including tankless water heaters and circulating pumps that malfunction due to certain causes, such as, normal wear and tear. Not covered: Auxiliary holding or storage tanks. Noise. Fuel storage tanks and energy conservation units.
Besides the specific terms listed here, coverage may be limited by general exclusions and limitations in your home warranty contract. For more coverage information, please read the sample contract, including but not limited to, the "Coverage Overview" and "Limitations and Exclusions" sections. AHS canned response is "I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the dishwasher repaired. Also, I understand your concerns with the non covered cost of $400 to have the issue resolved.

The American Home Shield site was very user-friendly when I had to file an online claim with them because my air conditioner was not cooling. Then I had to file a second claim because it froze up and I did that over the phone. The agent who helped me was very good. The contractors came and fixed it the first time and then they came right out the second. My AC is not big enough for my house and I can’t keep it below a certain temperature, so it’s an ongoing issue. But since the repairs, it is working as expected with it being at the temperatures I’m allowed to. Overall, I’m very happy with American Home Shield. I’d definitely recommend getting a warranty to anyone.

The air-conditioning wasn’t working properly and kept running all day. I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield and navigating through their site was straightforward. After filing the claim, it took a day for the contractor to get here. The interaction with him was very good and he was very knowledgeable, and the problem was fixed perfectly. However, I have an issue with the $75 fee. It should be at least about $50. But other than that, the AC is working fine. The equipment is old so I have to be gentle with it.

I had to call American Home Shield a month ago due to my air conditioner which wasn’t pumping out cold air. And then they scheduled service four days later. Fortunately for me, I’ve got a second air conditioner and I was able to pump it up. The technicians then came and they were friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve used them before. The air conditioner has been working good since. A lot of times however, American Home Shield is not so quick, and they don’t get the best contractors. I just had a water heater that went down then the contractor was not very good and tried to hook me for a lot more money. What American Home Shield gave me in reimbursement didn’t even cover the cost of the water heater. So, sometimes, they really make me irritable.
Good morning Denver,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experiences to have your service request fulfilled. I am glad to hear about your AC request that has been completed. I will be contacting you to address the water heater CIL concerns.

It looked like my dryer burned the electrical socket on the wall. So, at first we thought it was the dryer and I was trying to figure out if insurance covered the dryer but it didn’t and then we realized it was just the wall. So we were able to get that for an electric claim with American Home Shield and the guy that came in was fabulous. I put in the claim at night and the next morning I got a text message from the technician asking a little bit about what was wrong with the socket or if I could explain to him what was going on. And then he asked when it was good to do the service. He went above and beyond. He went outside to check the electrical box to make sure everything was functioning well and the wires worked fine there. That was a killer deal for 75 bucks so we were super happy.

I call things in with American Home Shield and I had a problem with them once. There were some hose bibs on that were not working properly and the covered items in my contract say hose bibs. But when the person came to the house, he said that none of the three that we had were covered. I told the rep on the phone that it was the problem before anybody came and the girl on the phone said they were covered, and she set up the appointment. I was totally confused by it. The contractor that came to fix them called American Home Shield up too because I said, "They said it was covered and you're telling me they're not." As it turned out, the person from American Home Shield that I spoke to shouldn't have sent anyone out because apparently, when they were talking about hose bibs, they were talking about the connections for the washing machine inside the house. That was the only time I had a problem with them.
We also had a leak in a pipe that was underground by the spa. Apparently, it was defective from day one because it was a really odd place for the pipe to crack since it was not anywhere that there was any pressure on it. It was underground and nobody would walk there. The contractor came out and replaced the pipe and they figured it was just stressed over time.
The contractors that come out to our home know what they're doing. However, the last one that came out with the air conditioner had an attitude problem. He was like, "Well, don't you question me, I've been doing this for 20 years." My husband has been an engineer for 50 years so if he asks the contractor a question and the contractor is not giving him a really good answer and sort of just blowing off off the top of his head, my husband will know the difference. However, the contractor seemed to be in a bad mood when he got here in the first place. He was a little late and I had just called up his company to find out if he was coming and he walked through the door as the company was calling him and he was getting all over that person on the other end of the phone. Then he came back the next day and he still had the same attitude.
Nonetheless, we've been very pleased with what has happened when we had appliances that failed and couldn't be replaced/repaired. We were very pleased with the service. The appliances that we got in its place have worked out really well. I'm always telling everybody, if we happen to be discussing anything with home repairs, to look into American Home Shield. They are a really good company.

I had an air conditioning and also a dishwasher fixed through American Home Shield. It was very easy to submit a claim online. I got a response right away and the contractors has been great. The only one I had a little bit concern was the vendor they used for the dishwasher, the Dell Appliances. They had to order a part, but they had sat on the part a day or two. They didn’t call me until I called them to ask them about the part. And they said, “Oh, yeah, we’ll set up another appointment.” And then it was two days later that they showed up. So it’s kinda delayed it a bit. But other than that all these guys are smart. Overall AHS has been good. I appreciate their quick response and their very systematic process. It works great and I also like their website. I recommend them. My friends have different companies and I’d tell them I have a great experience with AHS. If they want to move and get a better service, I would tell them to move to AHS.

I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim for our toilet. Working with their contractor has been great. He talked and told us what he was doing. Since the repair of the toilet, it has been working fine. However, we also had a problem with our air-conditioning and AHS hasn't fixed that problem. Their technician said that our unit needed an air compressor and some type of electrical strip and the part has yet to arrive.
While the people who have been trying to fix our AC have been wonderful, the problem is with the damn parts department at American Home Shield and with the department that didn’t let me know that there is an expedition department that I should have been put through to way earlier than I was. They finally put me through to the expedition department because I kept saying that I needed to speak to a supervisor or a manager.
We've had 100 degrees out here and we’re disabled, older people. I live on a fixed income and couldn’t afford to get a motel or anything. AHS' reps put me through to a manager and now something’s being done. Still, that's thanks to the people who are working for AHS, the contractor. He came up with the idea of locating a part close by and I don’t know why Home Shield couldn’t have come up with that idea.
Hi, Kathy. We apologize that you have been waiting on a part to be delivered and that it is causing you more discomfort. Please let us know if you are not being assisted properly. Thank you for your patronage over the years.

I have two contracts with American Home Shield and I’m very satisfied. I had a couple of situations and they were really good and they took care of it. I filed a claim for the outside faucets that were leaking and I feel like the first gentleman who came played a trick on me. He went out and he reduced the water flow from the house so it would not leak. There was then a low water flow in the entire house. He fixed the backyard but he didn’t fix the front yard. So, I called them back and I told the people what had happened and that the guy had not fixed the problem. They said they would send me somebody else, and they did a couple of days later. The guy fixed the issue so I was happy with him.

I had a claim for my garage door opener, which I filed online at 5:30 in the morning and that process was easy. I then got a call from the contractor at 7:30 AM and we scheduled an appointment for a later time that same day. Then they came out. They were 30 minutes late but they called prior to the scheduled appointment to tell me that they were running behind so it wasn’t a major deal. They then informed me of what the home warranty covered and what was gonna be my out-of-pocket expenses. They were here for 45 minutes, completed the work, and were gone. So the experience is good. But there have been times in the past where there were some confusion between American Home Shield and the contractor.

They haven’t even called to set up the appointment yet. I normally file claims online. However, I have a problem with the options in their website. They do not cover everything that I’ve needed and it doesn’t give me the right option to pick. Also, when I was on the phone, I entered my contract number and it kept coming up saying that that number was not correct and I had to go about finding in a different way. Nonetheless, we’re pleased with our overall experience with them that we keep renewing. I’d tell my friends to do the research and see what company works best for their needs.

We have five air conditioners at our house, and we had someone come out because one of them wasn’t cooling. He diagnosed the problem within five minutes and had it fixed. The unit was working again in 10 minutes. And then we had another air conditioner that did not come on three days later, and the same guy came out. And it was exactly the same repair and it took about another 10 minutes. Then, when we were in the process of selling our house, the inspectors on the house identified that two of the other air conditioners were not cooling enough. The guy came out, and checked those, and fixed those quickly. It was all really fantastic.
The only issue that we had was that since I had different air conditioners, there was apparently this thing called a recall where if they came out, and they fixed something, and then it was not actually fixed, they would have to come back out for free. American Home Shield told me that it was impossible online to have a second air conditioner claim within the same month because they assumed it was a recall, and on the phone, it was also very difficult to schedule that. Apparently, the contractor gets negative marks for having a recall repair even though they are not recalls because they are different air conditioners. This is because their system is not set up to handle that. Other than that, the representatives at American Home Shield were fine. It just took a long time to explain to them that it was not the same air conditioner. Overall, I've had other home warranties in the past, and AHS is much better.

I always get a followup email, a text message, or both, that they received my claim and then they always inform me to whom they referred the service. The job was scheduled quickly and the contractor came out within a couple of days. He inspected my garbage disposal and determined that it couldn't be repaired. It was the original one for the house and he had it available. He installed it and he was done within 30 to 45 minutes. The garbage disposal has been great since and it's much quieter than the other one.
For the most part, I've been very happy with American Home Shield and I refer them to most of my friends. However, I had issues a couple of times with my furnace and/or air conditioning. It's a combination unit. I've had a couple of issues where it's taken several days almost up to a week in the summer for the A/C to be repaired and that was bad, but it was during peak season and everyone's A/C broke.

American Home Shield was perfect -- timely, job well-done, everything was set. My pool runs every day about eight hours a day automatically. It was 10:30 AM and it should be running, but it was not. And in the summer in Florida, if the pool doesn’t run, you don’t have chlorine. Submitting the claim was very simple. The response online is fine. The whole “multiple option” thing asked what the issue was. From the simplicity standpoint, it was very good. There was not much to do. The guy called me that afternoon and asked me what was going on. I said, “The pool’s not working. The pump didn’t turn on this morning.” And he was here, so that portion of it was extremely straightforward.
The experience with the contractor was pretty straightforward and efficient, too. Hev was very professional and he did the job, in and out. It directed me and asked for the payment. I gave them my credit card for the $75 and they said that somebody will be in contact with me to set up an appointment. I set it up for a day, the contractor contacted me, and then he came. He was great, funny and personable. He answered all my questions and he helped. He also told me I can text him if I needed anything and that was really nice. Thankfully, the AC is working like a charm since it's getting hot out. Everything’s working good now.
American Home Shield is there when I need them and I get emails from them, so that was always helpful for a number in the case that I had about my AC. I’ve had the house now for two years and I would definitely look into them. I haven’t had any problems, but I know that the coverage I have would take care of it. Submitting a claim is never a problem with American Home Shield but the availability to be able to communicate to somebody is the biggest issue that I have. I’ve been with them for seven months and at any given time, I’m on the line for up to 45 minutes. I've learned to contact another number, which transfers me to someone else and I'm able to get a person a lot quicker. But historically, if you call the normal customer service number, you're gonna be on hold for at least 45 minutes. The reps are helpful, but it's just the frustration of waiting on the phone for 45 minutes to get to one of them if you have a question or you need to follow-up.
I kept having ice build-up in the bottom of my freezer and some insulation had to be replaced, Service Pros fixed it and they were excellent. The technician was very good, professional and I liked him a lot. The last one I had was from another company and I told them to remove them from my list and never send them back out to me again. I had a couple of claims on my plumbing and it was a negative experience. I had a leak in one of my water lines. It was covered, but they're not to cut through more than just drywall. It was in my bathroom and I had tile in my bathroom wall. So, I had to have somebody come out and take the tile off and then they would work through the drywall to the pipes. I had to hire two different people and one wasn't covered by American Home Shield.

It's been a week now and the agent I just spoke to said she's putting the request in again to the accountant. It should take 3-5 days. $439 is a lot of money to be twiddling their thumbs over especially when you are only expecting $39.99 to be withdrawn.
