This company provided the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. They were entirely unable and unwilling to help me cancel my contact when I sold my house in April. It took over 5 phone calls speaking to 5 different representatives to finally cancel my contact. Each phone call wait time is 10-30 minutes long and responses to questions takes over 5 minutes for an answer. Any other company can do a better job than this one. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Good evening Charlie,
I most certainly understand your concerns with the hold times experienced as well as the delay to cancel your American Home Shield contract. I am aware that you have been a customer of ours for years and decided to cancel due to selling your home. I would be glad to speak with you in an effort to correct your experience.

I called the provider Total Air Care and American Home shield to get an earlier appointment since my AC isn't working at all in these high temperatures. I was told by Total Air Care they were booked and could not help me until my appointment date, I asked if they had anything in place for emergencies like this and the CS said no, wow that is terrible for a business. I then called American HS and got a very RUDE representative that said my AC being out is not an emergency and that they could not give me another provider, then I asked for a manager and she stated that they don't have managers there and I would have to wait on that provider to help me . She was very RUDE, and unconcerned. This is very unprofessional.
Good evening Tangela,
After reading your review, I most certainly understand your concerns and frustration with the AC repairs that were completed. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve your most recent experience and get your air conditioner system cooling as it should be.

I will not give even one star! Hot water heater broke. AHS sent out a horrible company (Discount Water Heater) who proceeded to charge double for all uncovered items in order to make back the money they weren’t making with AHS. The sales rep with DWH was extremely rude and abusive. AHS refused to send out another company, stating they would give us $400 instead. No apologies, no help, nothing! It’s AHS’s responsibility to provide competent and honest repair companies. It is also their responsibility to provide polite, helpful and friendly sales reps which Karen ** is NOT! I will never use AHS again and will make sure others don’t as well!
Hi Mary,
I understand your frustration with your most recent service experience to have the water heater replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your customer service experience as well as the CIL that was offered.

Last Monday, I logged a request for service for a broken AC. (Same issue for the third time in a year) And was told I would get a call from a dispatch company within 24 hours. On Thursday, I finally received a call from the company, (who left a message with a call back number). I tried calling the number, and it required a second number and password. There was no live answer, or a way to leave a message. The next day, the same thing happened. I was not able to call them back, despite trying every number I could find for them online.
Today (Monday), I called AHS, and was put in queue for 25 minutes before a rep picked up. I spent the next hour trying to get to someone who could help me schedule an appointment with a reputable company, that had an actual working phone number, and could schedule a visit to fix my AC. (It’s been 100 degrees in Austin, Texas for the past two weeks).
No luck. She told me her manager was “not on site” and despite three attempts to put me in a queue for “escalations”, she was told they wouldn’t take the call and I would have to wait 4-6 hours for her supervisor to call me back to determine a resolve. I’ve still not received a call back from her supervisor (12 hours later), I’ve not received a call from a reputable company to fix my AC, AHS still has the $100 deductible I paid last week, and it’s going to be 103 in Austin tomorrow. By far, the worst customer “suppport” I’ve ever encountered. Zero resolution after 1.5 hours on the phone, with no end in sight, and seriously considering why I have been with them for the past five years.
Good morning, Andrea. I apologize that you have had an issue with getting your A/C issue resolved, especially in the current temps that your area is experiencing. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

It is a week since our water heater stopped working. Called AHS, they selected a company which will call me to set an appt. Everything looked OK. On Saturday, after 4 days without hot water, contractors showed up. Looking at their faces I realized they do not know what's wrong. They did not call AHS to report a defective part, as usually the other contractors do. I called AHS same evening to check on status of my claim - they did not have any info. On Monday I called Plumbing company, and they also did not get any info from contractor, but told me maybe tomorrow they will know something. Maybe?? I think AHS should better choose contractors.
Hello, Janusz. I apologize that you have been without your hot water heater for the past week. At this point, I do not have any updates from the contractor but we have requested the info. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

Customer since Nov 2017. 1st time utilizing home warranty Saturday 6/2/18 - AC not working. We are in Rockport, TX. It is 95 degrees outside. Unfortunately, over a 48 hour period, after MULTIPLE phone conversations with contradicting information, high frustrations with “snarky” AHS operators, MULTIPLE requests to speak to a supervisor, a phone call to the corporate office, we have decided to cancel our contract. We never did get to speak with a supervisor. Our AC is still not working.
AHS does not see anything wrong with only having one contractor to choose from (in their service area) that has very poor ratings/reviews with a highly recognized organization (BBB) and would rather lose a customer than to work to resolve the issue. Sat 6/2 4:00 pm: 1st phone call-44 minutes. On hold and to log initial service request. Could not understand accent of operator. Sat 6/2 4:45 pm: 2nd phone call-51 minutes. On hold and to review service request. Only two "approved" AC contractors in area (one 200 miles away and one 30 miles away). Authorization granted to select an "outside" technician because AHS could not get a response from their 2 contractors. We chose another AC contractor and verified contractor was not on AHS' "do not use" list. We thought this “do not use” contractor list was interesting to have. Very difficult accent to understand operator.
Sun 6/3 8:50 am: Chosen AC contractor arrives and diagnoses problem. It is not fixable, cause is due to normal wear and tear, unit must be replaced. 3rd phone call-10 minutes. AHS provides us with another number to call with AC contractor to discuss findings. Sun 6/3 9:21 am: 4th phone call-1 hour 5 minutes. On hold for 40 minutes while AC contractor waits to talk with AHS. It takes another 25 minutes for AC contractor to answer AHS' questions. We are told we need a 2nd opinion. AHS does not have any notes from night before when AHS tried to contact their only two approved AC contractors. We are back at square one. AHS states within 48 hours will have an AC contractor respond to us and set up a time to come to our home.
Sun 6/3 5:55 pm: 5th phone call-20 minutes. On hold and just following up to see if there is an update of their 2 AC contractors. No luck – no response received. AHS operator states “notes are confusing”. AHS operator also states he doesn’t understand why we were not already offered the “cash out” option. Mon 6/4 8:54 am: AHS leaves a voicemail stating one of their approved AC contractors has responded and can come out Tuesday. We read reviews online from several sources. Not good and a few VERY concerning comments. BBB rating=B+ with 55% negative reviews, 3.58 out of 5 stars. We decide we do not want this contractor in our home.
Mon 6/4 10:10 am: 6th phone call-1 hr 45 minutes. On hold for 1 hr. AHS tells us that if we want this covered under our home warranty, then we MUST use their approved contractor regardless of what we think. AHS relays to us that they do not recognize BBB nor any other online ratings/comments as they utilize their own rating system. We let AHS know that if this is how they operate then we’d like to talk to a supervisor or we’d have to cancel. Was transferred to another operator (not a supervisor). Relayed details AGAIN. This AHS operator tells us that she used to have a home warranty contract with AHS, her employer, and she knows exactly what we are dealing with. This same operator tells us a manager will call us back within 1 hour-she is the most helpful.
Mon 6/4 3:36 pm: AHS leaves us a voicemail with a contact phone number but no extension. This, apparently, is the corporate office. Mon 6/4 4:00 pm: 7th phone call-1 hr 15 minutes. We call AHS but because we do not have extension number, we are on hold for 30 minutes. We get to talk to AHS and locate the person who left us the message. After going thru all details AGAIN, she transfers us to cancellation dpt who relays to us that her only service is to cancel our contract and cannot help us with any service issues. We convince her to transfer us to the “escalation dpt”. This new AHS operator is with “service support” and does not see any issue as it is our choice to utilize AHS’ service contractor or to go outside the home warranty and utilize our own contractor. True, but then we see no reason to have a home warranty! Vicious cycle ended!
Good morning, Diana. I apologize that you have had to go through the hot weekend with no A/C, to be asked to locate your own service and then we asked for a second opinion. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

My furnace was acting up so I contacted American Home Shield and the rep took care of what I needed to do. I called them, they took my info and then they linked me with the people in my area. They give two or three options and the vendor usually contacts me and I pick who I want to service my claim. The contractors that AHS sent did a good job. They were very timely, harmonious and friendly. They came out right away and tracked down the part my furnace needed, which wasn’t easy to get. I called AHS back because there was one other issue that came up later and they came right back out. They have a 90-day warranty or free recall if there's an issue. If you own a home and have a lot of different appliances, it’s worth investing in AHS and I would recommend them.

I thought I had two appliances leaking, but it was only one appliance and it leaked under my sink. I submitted one claim to AHS for the two appliances and that claim has been completed and it was wonderful. Colby, the contractor who came to fix the leak, was absolutely wonderful as well. He took a look at my sink to let me know what was wrong with it. He taped what needed to be ordered while we were waiting on the part to come in, so I was still able to use the washing machine. He went above and beyond, and since the repair, the appliance has been working fine.

We had found a leak in our basement from one of our drain pipes. I submitted a claim online to AHS and the experience was fine and simple. The contractors came out the next day and inspected it and then got it fixed. The technician was fine and was great, as well. I've used AHS twice since I've had it and each time has been very smooth, very professional and very easy. Having AHS definitely works fine when purchasing a new home.

My air conditioning unit was leaking water from the inside. At first, I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and the website navigation was relatively easy. Then I wound up calling them as well and that was easy too. The only problem was that the contractor that they had to fix the problem wasn't experienced because I had to call them thrice and the guy that came out was not very professional. Although I just had to pay one time, I still had to pay extra for Freon to go in there and the last guy that came out said that was a problem from the start. Still, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

It’s the second home I’ve owned that I’ve used American Home Shield. I had a home in College Station, Texas and I used it there. And when I bought this house back in August, the realtor asked me who I would use and I answered American Home Shield. So I’ve had them for four years total. I file my claim on the website and it's simple. It was easy and smooth to just go log in on the website and request service. The only thing I would've changed is to have had a phone call back a little quicker.
They weren’t very quick initially. It was like, “Hey, we’ll call you in 24 hours.” I called and they were like, “Oh yeah, we’ll have someone out.” But once the contractor, Roger, showed up at my house they were super responsive. Our system wasn’t cooling, so Roger went up into the attic and inspected our system and found that we had air leak in the ductwork. We had to get those patched and the crew showed up and did that. And then he told me that our Freon was low. We didn’t get Freon when they patched the ducts so I had to call them and say, “Hey, come do my Freon.” And then they came and did the Freon. Roger was also very thorough in terms of explaining things to us the way he was looking at everything. We were happy with it and I've already recommended them to my friends.

I've used American Home Shield's service several times and I've been very pleased. The most recent one was for a leaking washer. I submitted the claim online and then it was very smooth and easy. The contractor had to come back twice though. They fixed the washer the first time and then it leaked again. They came and rechecked it for me at no charge, and it has been great ever since. Apart from this experience, I had a time before that when I used American Home Shield for a leak in my air conditioner. But I never realized that when the techs came to work on it, American Home Shield wouldn't cover everything like I thought they would. What I thought was gonna be a $75 bill for my service call turned into a $400 bill because I had to pay for the Freon.

I've been with American Home Shield for 10 years. Last year, with the AC unit, they had to put Freon on it and made me pay it out of pocket $200 besides the $100 deductible. I was unhappy. If I have insurance, why should it be that some money comes out of pocket. And also, I have claims still hanging in the air with the water heater. It has never been fixed because they wanted me to pay out of pocket $700 plus $100 dollars.
I made two claims recently with AHS in one day, one for the garage and for the AC machine. However, the AC was never serviced. I called the company that AHS suggested, but I left three messages and they never responded to my call. With the garage door, everything was fine. It was not opening and closing. One of the cables was off. The contractor came, adjusted everything and fixed it within 10 minutes. However, I had to pay $85 as the garage door was not covered. The techs who came to our home were very good. But I would tell others not to go with AHS.

I've had American Home Shield for years and what used to be the problem was if you had multiple things for them to look at, you’d have to call them because the website only did one problem at a time. But now, it has a build where you can check multiple things and you can group the issues together. I like that and it is a lot easier to navigate. And over the past year, I have not even called them and I used to always have to call and not just to go online and put it in.
The LED lights in our refrigerator was flashing really fast, and it seems to be a common problem with LED refrigerators. The contractor came out and assessed the problem. They then ordered the part and came back and put in the part. The guy who came knew what he was doing. He was good at what he does. He was also very friendly and professional. Prior to filing a claim for our refrigerator, American Home Shield had to fix the washer and dryer. They didn’t do anything for the dryer. With the washer, they had to come out several times until they finally got the right part and put it in.
I have had some problems with American Home Shield in the past. A contractor came out to fix the garage door opener and they replaced the spring and then, American Home Shield charged me the $75 callout fee. On top of that, they charged $160 at the time that they fixed it and said that they didn't cover it. So I asked what did they cover and they said they'd cover it if they replace the whole thing. I told them that at $260, it seems like close to replacing the whole thing. And worse, it took over a month to get it fixed. They came out about six times and it ended up being the sensors which were covered by American Home Shield but I was still out $260 plus the $75.

American Home Shield was part of the deal when we bought the house. It is a good resource in getting somebody to come out there and get the job done. We bought a new home and there was a woman who came in to rekey five locks. She was very professional and gave us great information as far as what was needed to be done. It was very efficient. She did her job and we were very satisfied. The service that was provided was great and I think if the woman who answered the phone when I submitted the claim was more efficient than she was, it would have been better. With that person who took the order, it just went on and on forever. It was a simple thing to say why I did the keys done, but it kinda just went on. She put me on hold and I kept on talking and talking her. I actually managed to go online on the computer and key the information in quicker than she was gonna do it.

But in all fairness, it was over the Memorial Day holiday so we get it. The Technician was professional and knowledgeable. He figured out that the circuit breaker just didn’t look like it had popped but it did. But all was well. Having the AHS warranty gives me security that I can just call when something breaks, and they'd come and fix it, as opposed to having to find a worker on my own. Our air conditioner would not kick off. We were without air conditioning for nine days and it was a little inconvenient at night. There are two units in the house, but the unit downstairs was the one that was out. It’s an open-architecture house, so we didn’t sleep at night in my bedroom that warm. So, I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The agent got on it right away and an electrician guy came the same day. My wife was here when the electrician came and he was very fast. He said that the drain line was clogged which caused the switch to keep the AC unit from running and told us that we needed a plumber. They even contacted the plumber and the plumber came two days later. Then, it took two more days because the plumber said it wasn’t plugged on his end. It was two more days before the AC guy got back and turned the AC on and it worked.
But it only worked for a bit and it kicked off and it was on the weekend. So, I contacted the company and they told us to call American Home Shield. I was out of town that weekend so it didn’t matter. The contractor came back on Monday and found the clog in the line and they took care of it. The AC has been working great ever since. Then, I got an email saying I was due to pay another $75. So, I called AHS customer service and they said that I don’t owe another $75 and they’ll take it off because it was the original call. I called in for my air conditioning unit because there was a lot of water leaking on the floor. American Home Shield sent out Bill's, and they noticed that I was a little low on the Freon and they did something that was supposed to have fixed it. They were said everything should be working okay. But they were not professional to me at all. And if they have to come back out, I don't wanna deal with them.
One of the things I really didn’t like was that they came on to the carpet and had no covers for their shoes. Then, before I knew it, they used a little bucket that I had in my utility room. They didn’t even ask to use it. I didn't mind that, but if they wanna use something that belonged to me, they were supposed to ask as opposed to using their own products. So, they threw me off, but I didn’t say anything about it. When they left, I had to call them because they left something off. And they had to come out again because I was still having the same issue and there was more water on the floor.
The first time they came out, they told me to turn off my air the whole day, so I did, and it was turned off by the time they got to the first appointment. When they called AHS for what they thought was a Freon issue, AHS denied it because it was supposed to have three pounds of Freon out of the thing, and it was only out one pound. The second time Bill's came out, they didn’t tell me to turn off the air, but then my air wasn’t getting as cold as it used to get after the first time they came out. So, I told them about it. They said that my air has been off all day. And they told me it would take a while to get the air back into the whole house and I should wait a while and it would come back. I waited a couple of days, and I called AHS again about them. It was getting cold but not as cold as it used to be, and it was already hot.
AHS then had to put me back in the queue for somebody to come out. They didn’t have anybody available and when I got the email, it was for Bill's to come out. Bill's gave me a call last week and they called me very unprofessional. The guy asked if I sent another service request out and I told him I did because it's still not getting as cold as it used to be. When I used to put it on 64, it used to be super cold, and if I put it down to 61, I'm gonna be freezing. But I'm not freezing like I used to. He told me it was because it was hotter outside. He said he was gonna call AHS, and they won’t send his company back out. But I haven't heard from them, and I didn't call AHS back again after. But time is going on here. I know they have a two-month warranty.
Other than this claim involving Bill's, I like American Home Shield's service and everything has been cool. I have actually just put another work order in for my stove. But AHS has to get back with me for the part. The guy came out on Thursday and I had to take off that day for him to come. This week they should be getting back with me for the part to come in, and for them to come back out and put the part in the stove.

He took time on explaining whatever he was doing in fixing the machine up.

The garbage disposal and the lid switch on the washing machine quit working. I called in to file the appliance claim with American Home Shield and it was fine. It took just a few days before Appliance Service Center came out for the service call and both technicians were able to get the appliances fixed within a matter of half an hour or less. The job was done very quickly, so I was very satisfied with it. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

I live in Texas, and my AC went out on the hottest June day on record-- a day with high humidity and heat advisory by 7 am. We discovered the AC wasn't working when we woke up Saturday morning and we immediately called American Home Shield. We were told to pay the service fee and call their technician to schedule an appointment. The earliest appointment available was Tuesday-- 4 days from the outage. In Texas, you cannot stay in a home without AC when it's in the 90s, with high humidity, and with heat warnings. We called and tried to explain but was told by a manager that there was nothing AHS could do. They said they had 5 days to respond, and Tuesday was 4 days, so it was all normal. 5 days without AC is not okay during a Texas heat wave!
I called back after lunch to see if they could help us get a hotel room, as the heat index was 103 by this point. Overall, this was a horrible experience. The first customer service representative told me she was transferring me to a supervisor, then the line went dead. I called back and got the immeasurable pleasure of speaking with Shirley, who was rude, patronizing, and a total time waster. Shirley would not even let me speak to a supervisor— she put me on a list to be called back in 24-48 hours and then spent five minutes blabbering on about how the supervisor has other jobs and can't just talk to customers all day long.
When I said there must be something that can be done because I cannot live in my house when it's registering as 90 degrees indoors, Shirley literally said I must not have understood her words and proceeded to repeat herself. For the record, Shirley, I perfectly understood but I was aghast at your ineffective and callous customer service policies and your attitude. Shirley also mentioned they don’t expedite unless it’s 105– and it was only 95 per her weather app so she couldn't do anything. She would not confirm which app she was using. Meanwhile, WeatherBug and Weather Channel both let me know it was closer to 97 with a 105 heat index in my zip code. Overall, she was rude, patronizing, and frustrating to deal with.
I followed up on Twitter and the company asked for my information, but they never replied after I provided my contract number. We also put in an online request in the morning, as this company was unreliable in the past with a dishwasher service request (which has also not been fixed, just FYI). I do have customer service experience, and I do my best to be understanding and polite. The rigid policies of the company were not customer friendly, but the patronizing and rude attitude of the people on the phone made the situation so much worse. A little kindness and sympathy would go a long way. They made a stressful situation into a nightmare. We are definitely not renewing our contract, which thankfully is up this month.
Good morning Caitlin,
I understand your concerns with the AC repairs that needed to be completed during the peaking temperatures of 100 degrees. Per your most recent American Home Shield experience I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues that occurred.

My A/C went out Friday May 25th. I put in a service request early that evening when I realized I would need someone to come service it and paid the $75 service fee and was told they would get someone out "asap". About an hour and a half goes by and I call again and was told they have up to two hours to get a contractor out to my place. After two and a half hours I was then told they have up to four hours to get a contractor to come out. After the FOUR hour window I was told it was too late in the day and they don't have any contractors working that late because it was Memorial Day weekend and I would have to wait until Tuesday. I call back in the morning as it's Texas in late May and my house was at 90 degrees and my dogs were already struggling and was told I could get an outside authorization to have a third party contractor come look at my A/C unit.
I had to call back multiple times to get the number to the outside authorization department and to pretty much do their job at this point. I encountered the most awful customer service. Almost every time I called back one customer service rep had to "ask a supervisor" every question I asked and when I finally asked to speak to the supervisor directly I was told, "There's not one here on the weekends" and that I could request to get on a list for a supervisor to call me back. I requested to be put on that list and am STILL waiting to hear back from a supervisor 10 days later.
I ended up cancelling my service request and am still waiting to get refunded my $75 service charge. I've attempted to call AHS MULTIPLE times and keep getting a busy signal or the line just keeps ringing. This is the worst experience I could imagine having with a home warranty company. My warranty with them is up in just a couple months and I can't wait to never have to deal with them again!
Good morning Mercedez,
I understand your concerns with your most recent service experience and the delay to have your air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the scheduling guidelines and also refund your $75 service fee.

Called AHS on 5/24 for our AC, they sent a contractor on 5/25 who told us it would be over $1,500 to fix and AHS would not cover it and if we paid him cash he could have it done in 2 days. When we asked for an itemized estimate so we could presented to AHS he refused and left. We called AHS to report the contractor, they sent a second contractor on 5/26, he said the repairs would be cover by our insurance but since it was a Holiday weekend it would not be submitted until 5/29, we totally understood this. We have called AHS every day since 5/29 (been placed on hold for over 25 minutes each time) and keep getting the runaround, they are still waiting for the contractor to submit his paperwork but there is "nothing they can do." When we asked to speak to a manager we were told there was not one. It is extremely disappointing how little they care. As of today we do not know when our AC will be repair.

Absolutely horrible. Don't waste your time and money. I've had this company for over five years, and they always send out the lowest bid, bottom of the barrel, half-ass, slap a band-aid type companies to deal with your problem. The latest frustration was talking to a representative who approved the claim, only to have another representative call me the day the plumber was supposed to show up (a week later), and deny the claim. They left us without a toilet for over two weeks and denied the claim twice for items I was covered for. They wanted us to pay another service charge to have another company come out to "access" the problem.
So, I will get a bid from three well-known plumbing companies, have them repair my covered items, and send AHS the itemized invoice along with the lawsuit for the repair and past monthly payments (because apparently they weren't covering anything). Absolute Junk! Half a star is way too overrating for this company. You'll spend more money in monthly payments than if you just cover the repairs as they happen. Thanks for nothing AHS, I hope you step in gum in a parking lot.

I moved into my home in April, the previous owners put an American Home Shield warranty when they sold it to me. After I moved in, the fridge started making a chemical odor, the ice maker does not work and there are pools of water collecting inside the fridge from an unknown location. I contacted American Home Shield and the first contractor they sent did not show up on time and I was still charged for the service call. They sent a second contractor out and did not charge me for it. The contractor told me the ice maker was not even hooked up and I would need a plumber to fix it. He also did not know why the fridge was leaking or what the chemical odor was. He suggested I wash the inside of my fridge with diluted bleach, huh?
The fridge was said to have been serviced and in working order before I moved in, which obviously it was not. This is fraudulent as I have all of this in writing, and furthermore the fridge is unsafe and unsanitary. I cannot keep my groceries in the fridge because I do not feel safe with how the fridge is in its current state. And since the last service call, the contractor put all of this in his report and told me to report it as fraudulent under my warranty. And here we are 2 weeks later with ZERO communication or followup from AHS about what they are going to do to help.
I'm sure I'll get the "Sorry for the inconvenience, someone will contact you soon" generic response from this company on here. I don't care, I just want people to know how shady this company is. Save your money, all these home warranty deals are a scam. Look at all the negative reviews, compare them to the fake generic ones that don't give any details. This company is screwing over thousands of people and nobody cares, I doubt this will even get posted.

However, I should not worry as this idiot filed a form to have them call me in the next 24 hours. Well... still waiting, and after almost a week I have still yet to hear anything from them!!! The pool pump and the pool filter both had issues. The pump would run and then kick off and then run and kick off again. The filter, on the other hand, was not performing the way it should and it also had some wear on top of it. My initial call to American Home Shield was to report those issues. Then the next day the contractor Worry Free Pool called me up, saying they’ve got an opening and asked if they could come and look at the problem. They came out that same day and the tech looked at everything and said he would turn in the claim because my motor and my filter head were bad. He said that once AHS approved the claim, he’d be out again and put everything on. And he was true to his word. He was out two days after that and replaced everything so that it was up and running. That service was really good, timely and professional. They were fabulous and I highly recommend them.
However, the issue before this was kind of a nightmare and a lot of it had to do with the initial phone calls that I had to make. One example was that I was at home and was on hold for over 40 minutes on the phone. Then I had my daughter call. She was on hold for five minutes and she got answered before I did. The first person that called in should have been the first to be answered. Also, there were several calls because everything was set up. And then the reps said something about the money that didn’t go through so they were not gonna do it unless I pay again. But I’ve already paid and there were probably notes that they could look up. Then rep said she would set something else up. But a couple of days went by and I didn’t hear anything so I called back again. And it was about five or six times that I was on hold for at least an hour each time.
Then finally, they gave me the name and number of the contractor that was supposed to come out. But I went a step above that and told them to let me call them to see if they’ve got something going on. So I called the contractor and they said they were not coming out because I live too far out. Once again, I kept calling AHS and again I’m on hold for an hour. I told AHS what the contractor told me. The contractor also said they know about the home warranty and they are not coming out because they’ve done this in the past and they were on hold for an hour. And they were not getting paid for that hour that they were on hold.
I just wanted the problem fixed so I called back AHS again and told them that our house was starting to stink. The water was stagnant and it wouldn’t drain. The rep said she would call it a health risk and have someone contact us in four hours. But four hours went by, the next day was done and it went and again, the next day was done and it went. There was still no phone call so I had to call back again. It was back and forth.

It turned out that the compressor had to be replaced. He was able to replace it the next day and it took him about four hours to do that.
I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I had it in Washington State for about 30 years. I went online to file a claim to American Home Shield for the air conditioning that wasn’t cooling properly. The claim process was quick and efficient then REO Mechanical came after a couple of days. The tech was extremely efficient and after he went through the AC, he told me that there were some loose bolts and that was there was a leak. So we tightened that whole up, put the Freon in, and solved the problem. Everything is working great now, especially with this hot weather. The only objection I really had was the fact that American Home Shield has a limit of $10 per pound on their Freon that they will pay, and Freon is now $145 a pound. So that cost prepaying, but then it's becoming more difficult because of the shortage of Freon.

When my refrigerator wasn't cooling, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I have been through it before and it was easy. The website was fine and it showed me the phone number after it was assigned, and I was to call up the company right away, so I didn't have any issues there. And the contractor was great. Since I had already known what was wrong 'cause it happened before, I just grabbed the serial number of the part and diagnosed it over the phone. The contractor ordered the part before he even came out and so he saved a bit of time there. I did have to wait a few days for the part to arrive and being without a refrigerator for four days is not ideal. But it's nothing AHS could change, and I'm not dissatisfied in any way. But if there is some way they could fix or improve the lead time in getting parts, that would be great.
It was the fourth time this same refrigerator had this problem over the last three years. I've had to have the same fan motor replaced. Early on, I asked about the number of repairs before they come in and just do a replacement, but it was a lengthy process to kind of get some information back. AHS has not volunteered anything on replacing the refrigerator. For them, it's probably more effective to replace it 'cause it's an expensive fridge. But the refrigerator is working fine now. And AHS is great. I recommend them to my friends quite often. My friends don’t even know that this kind of service exists.
Hi, Greg. Thank you for letting us know that your request was taken care of as promptly as possible. While there is no certain amount of times for repairs to be completed before we replace, there should be someone paying attention to the amount of money that we may be spending to replace the same part. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

I had American Home Shield replace my whole air conditioning unit back in October of 2016. They told me that somebody would get in contact with me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. I received a text message from a place stating that they would be in contact with me within another 24 hours to discuss an appointment. Needless, I never could get in contact with that company and they never called back. I went a whole week without any air.
I called American Home Shield back to advise them that nobody has contacted me with regards to scheduling an appointment. I was a little frustrated because I kept being placed on hold and American Home Shield's systems went down that day. I would wait for 45 minutes to call back to be hung up on. I had to find my own people to come out to the house. I told the lady to tell me who was in the list and I would call the contractor myself to see if they can get me a tech because I was getting nowhere with American Home Shield. So, she gave me a list of the people that I can call.
The people who came out here fixed the air conditioning unit but it was inconvenient because I had to stay on the phone all day long trying to get somebody to come out here and that’s something that AHS should have done for me. Since the repair, I haven't had any issues with the AC. The techs said that the wires to it was burnt so that’s why it wasn’t producing any cold air. American Home Shield has been beneficial to me, but we got spammed. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is super easy. I do it online and if I have any questions, I call them and they're right on it and answer me fast. Furthermore, the speed of their repairs is fantastic. I've had very little issues with people who came out to my house to fix anything. The only delays I've ever had are when parts needed to be ordered because it takes time for those to come in. But then when the repair guys were here, everything's done quickly.
We had repeated AC repairs almost yearly for six years between the upstairs unit mostly and occasionally the downstairs unit. And they kept refilling the Freon and telling us they fixed the patch here. While the people sent out always say they fixed it, the next year, it's broken again. The latest person they sent out told us that it was not just our condenser downstairs but our coil upstairs that needed to be replaced. He sent in the report to American Home Shield. They sent out somebody for a second opinion who verified the same thing. And they've replaced it. It took three weeks to get everything repaired.
Overall, while I like American Home Shield and the security of having that account, I wish they use some of the bigger companies in town instead of the smaller ones because I’m familiar with some of them. But some big companies won't use them because they said they have slow tech. Still, I have recommended AHS to a few people who've gotten policies, too.

I typically go online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. They have a button where you can hit a claim which is helpful and I love it. I don’t have to deal with the queue because when I do have to call in, they have very long queue. And then, I'd hear back from AHS in a few hours as to who the company they're sending out is and that we’ll hear from them in 24 business hours. And then, I'd get a call from the company and they'd set up a mutually agreed appointment to come out.
So far, the vendor has been excellent. They were professional and competent. They have always been able to resolve the problem but that doesn’t mean that the first time they send someone out, they’d be able to resolve the issue. Half the time, they had to order a part. So we had to wait and when that part comes in, they'd come back and that same vendor would come in and redo it. And, in addition to the monthly fee, we pay a trade fee any time somebody comes out, unless something falls out of the scope of the warranty. So that fee is guaranteed to fix or replace the issue for at least 30 days without any additional fee to make. So if they’re unable to fix the issue, then they have to replace the item regardless if it’s 30 days after that.
I had an issue for the hot water in my Washington DC condo and I was told, “This is gonna be a $4,000 replacement.” That was why I got an American Home Shield home warranty to begin with. I will never have a thousand dollars plus bill again. However, there were two issues that came up in St. Louis place that haven’t gotten resolved. One was with the washing machine and the other was an air conditioning. And AHS did not follow up and the issue has not been resolved for about six months now and we couldn’t get an escalation Department to call us back. They kept saying they would call and they didn’t.
We've had issues also where the vendor couldn’t handle it and has rejected the claim and then, AHS has decided to a new vendor. But the vendor said, “We’re just waiting for parts.” They can do that for six months. So we’re just sitting around waiting and that was the major issue. My property manager was online for three hours trying to get somebody with AHS. She was trying to get it escalated and they would say, “Ok fine. The manager with call you back.” And I never get a callback. I would really appreciate if there was someone I could call directly. If there’s an ongoing issue for more than X period of time, they should have somebody to make that get done, instead of us having to constantly follow up with the vendor.

Their website was pretty straightforward and AHS was able to send out a contractor in about 2 days. He replaced the fan filter and everything was great initially, but there was not a whole lot of suction on the pump part. So, he came out and said that he would clean out the pipes and when he did, he must’ve back washed the fan filter into the pool itself because my pool went from clear blue to dark cloudy green within a two-hour period.
Then he blamed me by saying that I didn’t have my chemicals balanced. I went back and forth with him a little bit and had the water tested at another place who told me that there was no possible way that my pool could’ve turned green in that short amount of time unless something was done to it. I said that to the contractor and he told me that that was not the case. Then, I just left it at that. I bought a shock and was able to clean up the pool myself afterwards. But then I started having issues the second time with the motor going out and it was the same company that came out. Luckily we put our differences aside and made it work in the end.
Having warranty on my property is very valuable because when buying a used home, there are always a lot of variables that I'm not quite sure of. The inspector would come in and say that everything looks fine but then, a few months down the road, something would go out and I didn't expect to have these huge expenses. On my previous home, I had a home warranty policy also and it really helped out because I had a water softener that worked for about five months before it decided to just completely not function anymore.
Thank you for taking the time to advise us of your service experience. We appreciate the positive feedback.

Awful experience from beginning to end. They denied my legitimate repair requests due to the faulty diagnosis by the technician. Fortunately this happened early in my contract so I was able to cancel and get some of my money back. They use delay tactics (never call you back) and will make you jump through hoops to get repairs done. If you like flushing money down the toilet, this is the company for you. Otherwise, save your money and avoid the headache that is American Home Shield.
Good morning Russell,

We called American Home Shield about another leak in the ceiling over the garage from the air conditioning unit because the drain pan was overflowing. I usually submit a claim over the phone because the claim process is a little complicated, so I just want to tell somebody real quick. The technician that American Home Shield sent out three weeks prior did not clean out the drain pan and maybe didn't even clean out the main drain. He did a very poor job. So for this last one, I had specifically requested a different technician to come out because aside from being incompetent, the first guy was also rude. And I made American Home Shield aware of that.
So, they sent out a technician who was actually assigned to the area because the first guy wasn't. He was very nice and professional. He cleaned everything up and gave us suggestions again on how to keep it from happening, annual inspections and things like that. We were very pleased. We've dealt with American Home Shield for about five times now and I only had that one bad experience. But American Home Shield itself has been fine the whole time. Thus, I'd tell anyone interested in them to join up. It's worth it.

I knew that I was going with American Home Shield when we bought our home. My daughter uses this company as well as two of my sons and they’ve all had good results. When I submitted my claim to American Home Shield, I had a good experience. I did it online the first time and the second time, I had to call in and tell them they needed to have him come out again. I had an issue with the garage door opener and the first time the technician came out, he adjusted something and he told my husband that he thought that might be what the problem was. He also said it could be the rollers but the very day that he had been here, I came home and I used the garage door and it went up halfway and then it quit. So, I called and they sent him out.
The second time he had an appointment to come out but he called me that he had a very serious migraine headache and he couldn’t drive. It was about a 50-mile drive from where he was coming from. But he was on time and he was very polite about calling himself, and rescheduling. He came out again last week on Thursday and put the new circuit board in. They did not charge me an extra $75 for the second visit because he had just been here and it still didn’t correct the problem was good because I wasn’t gonna pay it again. A plumber also came out on an issue and he fixed it, got the part and we’ve had no problems. Everybody has been very polite when I’ve talked to them and very helpful. They got on it right away whatever the issue was.

We had several issue back to back and the second time we made a request to American Home Shield it was for a separate issue. They thought we were calling about the first issue again, which they already fixed so they never came the second time. And at the time, we had tenants in the house so the tenants were getting upset when we forced them into waiting around when we had to make calls to get someone out there to resolve the issue. Then AHS found someone to send later on during that day. We wanted to get the job done and they were able to.
I always submit my claim online through the American Home Shield website and it's not difficult. You just enter your phone number, zip code and your account pops up. You choose the repair that you need and then you submit it and then they give you an option to pay now or later. And then they send you the email, “The actual contact will call you within the next 24 hours to set an appointment," and then depending on my availability and their availability, it could be a couple of days.
Before the home warranty, I would just call companies I find online and then those companies give high sales, which I don’t like. But with AHS, they do the job and they’re done. They don’t pressure you. I would recommend them. There has been a couple of ups and downs but overall I still stayed with them and I’m gonna keep them.

And then also, I found out today that an inspector from the city has to come out as well. However, we got shocked when we found out that they had to put in new water lines and everything else for $400. I’ve had plumbers before and it didn’t cost that much.
The other one I'm a little worried about is the company for the stove and microwave. American Home Shield gave me JNB Construction which I thought was a strange name. I got a text from JNB and I’ve tried to return the call. In fact, I am texting them right now but I haven’t been able to get anyone except a voicemail. We didn’t get a call back as quickly as we thought since it was the weekend but we were able to get through to somebody and they were able to help us out.
The only big problem was that the electrician they went through was on their end and not with American Home Shield. My washer quit working, it wasn’t agitating, and so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I called in, but it did it automated, which I hate. And then, the contractor that came out was an idiot. He was incompetent, was not polite and he had no personality. He didn’t say probably five words to me and the few words that he did say were rough and short. He was just not a people person. I told American Home Shield that I didn’t want him in my house again. And I don’t know why they would send somebody from Joplin. I’m in Springfield which is an hour drive.
My washer is a high-end Maytag and is now 10 years old. They ordered parts for it and I’ve seen that they got them because American Home Shield told me that the parts were being overnighted. I got a call two days after the parts have been delivered, and the contractor said they couldn't get out to see me until next Wednesday because they were waiting for the parts to come in. I knew the parts were already delivered but then he said he haven’t seen them yet. AHS needs to get rid of these people because I will never use them again. The guy seems a little shady and he was rude. I was around him twice and did not have a good feeling about him either time. And I don’t think he knew what he was doing. Even when he left, the washer was loud. I can hear it from the other side of the house.
AHS had to send somebody else out today since my washer was still broke. The guy that came out said that there was more wrong with it than whatever the previous guy said. He also told me that the transmission is out and that transmissions are expensive. The new guy was great. He was friendly and he explained stuff. He talked to me and he took time.
This has not been a good experience for me. But I’ve used American Home Shield before and I didn’t have any problems. And I would recommend them. I think it was basically this one repairman. When I called back to tell American Home Shield that the washer still wasn’t right, they were gonna send these people back out again. And I told them no. And then they said they were gonna charge me another service fee, and I told them no. And I did that all via chat because I was on hold with the girl the other night, who said she had to call that guy and get him to sign off on it before they can assign it to somebody else. And then she hung up on me. It was like she told me that I didn’t have a choice of who I wanted to come to my house. So, there needs to be some training.

I used American Home Shield for years when I lived in a house in the city and they were awesome. So I signed up with them again last fall. When you submit a claim, you just go online. It's not a problem. However, I've had a couple of appliance issues. I had a call for my refrigerator and the gentleman said he was gonna order a part and he should be back with me by Tuesday. That's been a couple of months ago. It's a thermostat issue. So everything in my fridge has been freezing. I had reached out to American Home Shield several times and finally, someone got back with me and said they were not able to get the part for my refrigerator because it was discontinued. Therefore, they're gonna replace the refrigerator.
With that said, I did some research. I live in an old and very small condo. And the fridge that was offered was way too big for the area that it needs to in. I wouldn't be able to get in the door. There were other options offered to me. I can choose something myself and pay the difference. And then another option was to get the money. I found one and I'm willing to pay the difference. So I submitted the information online and then someone would get back with me. But I haven't heard back on that.
The other claim I had was for an air conditioning unit issue. It took me almost three weeks to get someone to look at my AC because everyone that American Home Shield was reaching out to was not aware that the AC is on the rooftop, which in any apartment or condo or business it's gonna be on the rooftop. For some reason, American Home Shield called two separate people to come out on the same day. So I called and told them that I don't need two people. Although, one of them had cancelled, I've been charged for both services. So now, I have a past due on my account and it's been a pain in the tail.
I have called American Home Shield hundreds of times and every time I call, I'm told that they're submitting it to have it reimbursed. Then I'll tell them that it was what the other six people had said. They tell me that they don't see where it's been done. But when they do fix something, it's done well and I've been pleased with the service. It's just that when you call American Home Shield, you're on hold forever. One day, I was on hold for almost an hour. The person came on, asked me a couple of questions, put me on hold, and disconnected me. That's really hard when you're at work.
Good afternoon Caroline,
I understand your concerns with the appliance service request that you have placed. I would be glad to speak with you and address the unresolved issues.

A couple of weeks back, I had a problem with the air conditioner. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and my my experience was fine. Then, I called them again because I had a carbon monoxide leak. It was over the holiday weekend, so I called on Monday morning then they dispatched a plumber who came in on Tuesday afternoon. He barely looked at the hot water heater. He proceeded to tell me that I had a wild animal that died in the ventilation system and that my house was infested. Then he pretty much ran out of here.
So, I had to hire a duct person who came in the next day. He told me that the ventilation was fine and there was nothing in the vents that was keeping the exhaust from flowing out. From there, it was an endless amount of phone calls to AHS try to get a new plumber. AHS reassigned my claim to somebody else who, finally, after multiple phone calls, told me they couldn’t come out for a week later.
Then on Thursday, after I had been told that my claim had been elevated to the next level, I called to see where we were. Apparently, my claim hadn’t been elevated and there was nothing assigned. AHS said that I was on my own essentially and I could go out and find someone. I then spent another few hours and another day off of work and eventually, I was able to find my own plumber. It turned out that I needed a clean air exchange into my utility room, so the tech had to put a hole in the wall to the outside. But I was very disappointed because I spent days and hours with AHS and in the end, I had to resolve the issue on my own. Right now, everything’s up and running again, but I was without hot water for almost five days.
So, it was a horrible experience and I was pretty disappointed. I hope it doesn’t happen again and I’m cautiously optimistic because I had one good experience with AHS on a different issue. I'm also concerned that it was all done automated. I should have been able to speak to someone and if I did, they may have gotten the right person out here to start with. But the first plumber they sent out didn’t know what he was doing. AHS reassigned it after I called the next day and after I paid for a duct man. But they essentially closed it,my claim out with no notification to me and I had no way of knowing. I had to call back in and reactivate it. And it was a complete waste of time because I ended up doing the work that they should have been doing.

4 weeks ago I've placed a request for refrigerator repair. Since then, they sent 2 companies to my house with both technicians saying they couldn't be fixed. After 3 days of the last visit, I've called them and they were trying to find another company. Since they were unable to find one, they granted outside authorization. I was able to find a company and tech came to my house but once I told him I had extend warranty he told me couldn't do anything (I had explained the whole situation once I placed the call to this company).
I've called AHS and they told me because that company was a vendor, it couldn't do the service as outside authorization (I was never told this, only criteria is that they had to be insured and licensed in my state -- also if it was one of their vendors, why didn't they send it in the first place). The AHS representative told me they would find a vendor by yesterday. Nothing yet. I've already talked to 3 customer reps today. This is very frustrating. I called AHS to let them know and they told me we would have to wait until the next day for the contractor to call them and cancel the ticket before we can get someone else out. Mind you it's 100 degrees where I live... I could not understand why we had to wait. Obviously they are unreliable since they don't show up to appointments. Needless to say we waited and they sent another contractor out. The contractor was in and out. Stated he fixed the problem.
When we returned home the a.c. was still not working. We called AHS back and advised them that the AC was still not working. They called the contractor and they say give it 6hr to kick in... I have never heard of such a thing in my life "give it 6hrs"... So we wait yet again. This is Friday so now we are going into Saturday still no air. We call AHS back and they are saying they will have to send the contractor back out. We can't get a new one and they can't come out until Monday. We asked for a refund of our service fee since the job was never done correctly. So we can hire another contractor that does come out on weekends. AHS states they don't do refunds and if we wanted another vendor to come out we would have to pay another 75 and still wait until Monday. What's the point of having a warranty company that for one contracts low end contractors and two none of them do emergency calls.

This company is absolutely trash. I called to have my A/C looked at because it was not cooling properly and the first tech they sent out said I had a leak after looking at my unit for 2 minutes so he recharged it with R22 and said I owe him $150. I get out my credit card and said it has to be in cash and asked if I can go to the ATM to get cash so I instead wrote him a check for $150 but cancelled the check with my bank when I noticed that my A/C was blowing out warm air instead of cold air. In other words he made it worse. I must have called customer service about this deal on 10 different occasion and all of them seem they didn't care about my situation and one rep told me her system is down so she can take a smoke break. The only way I was able to get them to send out a second tech was when I started cursing on the phone and threaten to cancel with them.
No customer should have to go through this and to top it off I kept asking for the technician's license and qualification and they refused to provide that. AS A CUSTOMER I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SEE MY CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE!!! I'm going to be taking legal action with this company as the first tech broke my A/C which is now requiring me to replace the whole unit. This company does whatever it takes to earn a profit for each customer. I thought I was paying for peace of mind but I'm really paying for is one headache after another. I had an air conditioner issue and initiated the claim with American Home Shield on a Monday. I used their online service to file a claim and it was completely seamless. They had someone out on a Thursday afternoon and established that the control board in the AC was bad, so they had to order a part. Then, I had gotten a call the following, Sunday, saying that the part was in and they were trying to schedule an appointment. They're coming Thursday to replace that part and hopefully, my issue will be resolved.
Calvin, the contractor, was great. He called me just before he was about to show up at the house. I work 30 minutes away in Brunswick and explained to him that I was running late and he said he'd go to another call first. I texted him when I had gotten to my house and he came right around the corner. He explained everything thoroughly and it was clear that he knew what he was doing, and that he was used to dealing with people.
I've had three claims this year. I had a water heater less than a month ago. I identified the problem and they sent a technician out. He looked at it and agreed what the issue was. They ordered me a water heater and was out the next day replacing the thing. I've had AHS's service for six years now for insurance and any single time I've had an issue come up that I can't handle myself, I call them. And it reminds me why I pay the bill every month. They're always right there and always paying the claim. I cannot be happier with American Home Shield. I would highly recommend them.

I bought a new condo and American Home Shield was recommended by people that I know who have them. When the food in my freezer wasn't freezing correctly I submitted a claim with AHS by phone and they handled it great. They were very polite and helpful, and they walked me through when I needed .The contractor was there on Monday and figured it out within a few minutes. They said it was the Freon and they fixed it so we’re all good.
Great Deloris! We are happy to hear that AHS has been beneficial to you. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Thanks for choosing AHS and have an amazing weekend.

We've been with American Home Shield for a long time and they've handled things very well. We had an emergency plumbing and it was taken care of very quickly, in a couple of hours. I had to submit that claim over the phone because we had water coming up out of the toilet too. It was an unbelievable clog. And AHS was outstanding when I called them.

The sink was clogged in the kitchen and then in my master bathroom, I had a couple of knobs that were leaking. I submitted the claim online to AHS and I was surprised how easy it was. The contractor did a great job and he explained what the problem was. It was stuffed up. And then he worked on the leaks. He had to come back as he didn’t have the particular part that he needed. He came back the next week, repaired the issue, and it's been working good ever since.

When the AC wouldn’t work apparently it was an older piece of equipment and it just needed replacement. It just wouldn’t kick in and there was strange noise on the fan. We own the house with our daughter and her family. And so, they live in the house and she is the person that filled out the claim with American Home Shield and did the work with them once they had identified who the selected worker was and she was the one that was there. It was straightforward. It was what it said it would be and we didn’t have trouble setting things up.
The young man who came and did the work was pleasant enough and he did what had to be done, and the unit seems to be working fine now. But he kept having to leave the site to get equipment or he didn’t have the tools that he needed. And when the person who supervised came, he made suggestions about other kinds of repair that weren’t any of his business. He talked about how bad their roof was and how awful the gutters were and the trusses were wrong and there wasn’t enough insulation. My daughter just said, “Thank you so much. We're very aware.” “Well, you need to fix this, da, da, da.” She wanted to go, “Dude, fix the air conditioning and go home. Okay. You're not telling us anything we don’t know and we don’t have a bucket of money to get all these fixed at once. So, we'll take care of it as we can but thank you so much for your input.”
We didn’t wanna blame him ‘cause he was trying and the air conditioning works now and isn’t making any strange noises. We're glad that we bought the warranty and I'd recommend AHS. Our son-in-law is a real estate agent and he said they always recommend AHS to buyers. I advised him a couple of weeks when it got hot and the AC wouldn’t work and we went, “Okay. This is definitely something that we're glad we made the investment worked."

We've been with American Home Shield for at least three years, and this is our second house. We've lived here long, and we developed a leak in the guest bathroom. AHS sent a plumbing company out that was crappy. They said they were gonna be here in a couple of days and they wanted to come out on a Friday at about 4:00 and fix it before they close at 5:00. The plumbing leaked for a solid week, while they said they were coming out and then something came up. They wanted $2,600 to fix the plumbing, and I told them they didn't need to come out here anymore. We had it fixed for $600.
On the other hand, the AC people they sent were wonderful. At the beginning of the air-conditioning season, we turned the AC on, and it didn’t cool the house down so we called AHS and they were really nice. They sent a guy who checked it all out and said there was a hole in an outside condensing unit coil. It would have to be replaced, so he contacted them back and forth and then came out and replaced it.
American Home Shield's response could always be faster anytime there's an issue, especially with the air-conditioner during summer, but they had to order the outside condensing unit and they weren’t able to get it locally, which ran it into a three to four-day deal. It was at the beginning of summer, so we were somewhat comfortable in the house with fans, but it’s always gonna be easier if we can pick the phone and call the repairman that we know. With AHS, we had to go through the process, but it was worth it and I would recommend them.

American Home Shield had done several things for us and I've had mixed experience so far. I've been with them since February this year. I had a home warranty for the first two years on one home with Landmark and decided that I would switch to American Home Shield. Then, when I bought another home, I added it to the AHS deal.
Generally, they have been positive. But I had one experience where I had the hot water heater not being repaired for two weeks. Neither American Home Shield nor the individual plumbing contractor, All-Out Plumbing, did anything to drive it to resolution. I had to make multiple phone calls and finally just stopped working with American Home Shield altogether and called the plumber directly and said, “Come fix my heater.” There was no way you could slice it. Both the contractor and American Home Shield missed it completely on that one. Otherwise, they’ve been what I would expect in terms of my experiences with Landmark.

We’ve had a really good experience with American Home Shield. The claim was very quickly assigned to Paul’s Appliance and then Paul’s called us and made an appointment. However, the repair was a little long because they were working hard to fix our refrigerator. There were several issues with it. They'd fix one then they'd find out that there was another. Nonetheless, they were very diligent about coming back and we had the same technician every time. He was excellent, professional, on time and was quick to find the problem each time until they figured out everything that was wrong. Now it was completely fixed. I'd tell others to have AHS too. In fact, I told my preacher over and over again, “You need to get this. You need to get this insurance.”

When you submit claims to American Home Shield, the initial claim is easy but it’s frustrating that I always get the impression that they’re looking for a reason not to pay on that claim. The first company that came out took one look at the pool heater and said it was old and we needed a new one. On the inside, that box that covers the heater has some rust in there but the mechanisms of the heater and the wires don’t have rust. He took a picture and AHS said that it was not usual wear and tear. The heater is 20 years old so, I don’t know what’s normal wear and tear and that really made me mad. AHS claimed that they would replace or fix appliances no matter how old they are. Yet, they said that they were not going to and that’s not the first time that they did that to me.
But I was very satisfied with Upland Pools which is a good company. They fixed it and they even had to come out again because a trigger clipped off and they fixed that too. So I have no problem with them. I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and I’ll keep them for emergencies but I would never recommend them. I’m not the only one that complains about them because when I mentioned it to other people, they said they cancelled them and that they were terrible. AHS has to get better about taking care of their customers.
Good morning Carol,
I would like to thank you for your patronage to AHS over the past five years. I understand your concerns with the pool heater service request that was completed in May. I would be glad to speak with you and address any unresolved issued that you may have.

I called in a claim with American Home Shield for my A/C and the rep was very good. The technician they sent was professional. He did what he needed to do. He did a good job but towards the end of the job, we realized that there was some water in my pan that I use to catch water. He blew the drain out but I don’t think he did it the right way. He needs to come back because it filled up again. I ran into that problem in the other home that I had some years back and then the guy said, "This is what you need to do." And then he came in and he blew some air to blow it out because the drain was fairly long and then he showed me what I needed to do and I put the same thing here. And it helps with that.

We manage properties and he does all of our work for us. He was on time and professional. It was an excellent experience. Overall, we have no problem with American Home Shield except for the on hold time. Very seldom do I get right through. I’ve been on hold for 45 minutes to an hour, and I just had to hang up. When I first filed a claim with American Home Shield I used the automated system. And then they would always call me back to set up an appointment. Recently my air-conditioner was not cooling my home at all and it was quite warm in the home so I called American Home Shield. The drainage pipe thing that the contractor asked to pour Clorox in once a month was clogged. So he unclogged that. Then it was still having a problem so the next time he had to come through, which he didn’t do before because he just thought that the clog was the issue. But I had a vent loosed up in my attic.
Every time that I’ve called for my air-conditioner problem, he has been the guy and he’s been very professional, always very nice, very helpful and always quick to explain what it was that he had done and what I needed to do to help my situation as well. I started the claim for the plumbing service to American Home Shield online. Our toilet went real slow, and so the company they sent out recognized that it was the same toilet that the house was built with. It was at least 20 something years old, and so they figured that with a slow toilet like that, it just needed to replaced. They had to order the toilet bowl but it was quick and understandable. It was well worth the time and delay. All the plumbing work that we get done through American Home Shield is done through the same plumbing company and they do a very good job. They’re always professional and explains every procedure and everything that’s going on. So, they’re great partners of American Home Shield. I submitted my claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioner over the phone and they got back to me in a timely manner. The only complaint I have is that they don’t pay for Freon. They've sent a letter out saying that the customer is responsible for the Freon, when I’ve been with them for seven years and I’ve never had an air conditioning problem up until now.If the air conditioner goes out, they want me to pay $1,000 for the Freon to be put back in and that’s not fair. Why does the customer have to pay for the Freon? They also said I need a compressor, but why can’t they use the Freon that’s in there already? Take it out and put it in a container ‘cause they got to put it in a container anyway. They can’t just let it go free out in the air, so why not put it back?

My hot water tank was leaking at the bottom. The guy who came out and did the estimate put down that it needed gas line repair but I don’t even have gas in my house. He also said that I needed electrical work, but there was no work needed. It was like he was trying to rack all these extras up just to get an extra $500 on top of what American Home Shield was gonna pay. I called that company myself and made a complaint against the guy who came out and, of course, I haven’t heard anything about it. American Home Shield ended up just giving me a cash-out deal and I replaced the hot water tank. I didn’t have to do anything that guy was talking about, except for putting the drain pan in because it now requires a drain pan underneath the thing. That took me 30 minutes from start to finish to put in and everything's good now.

The washing machine kept stalling and locking, so we couldn't open it up to get our clothes out and it didn't do the wash. The machine would just put water in and then stop. It happened five times. I went on the internet and did whatever it said to reset the machine and I was able to fix it myself a couple of times. But it didn't reset anymore so I called in to file a claim to American Home Shield. They have great claims representative who assisted me and they were able to get someone out quickly.
The company sent seemed like a little mom-and-pop company but the technician who came out was cool. He took everything apart and looked at everything then came to me and said, "It's not happening now so I can't fix the problem if I'm not seeing any problem. But I tightened all the connections so everything should be fine.” I told him from my research on the internet what the codes were and I gave him the code and told him that it was telling us that the machine needs a new motherboard. The guy said that he did not see it and that everything will be fine so he left. About a week later, it happened and within a few days, it happened four more times. Then it took about a week until the technicians came back.
I ended up pulling the whole panel off the bottom myself. I reached up and unlocked the washing machine. Then I called back before the technicians came out and asked them if we could just buy a whole new machine and I just get the price of whatever the part was gonna cost. That's what I ended up doing. They gave me the money for the washer but I ended up buying a washer and dryer. But if they took care of the issue the first time, it would have been better. Other than that, everything else is fine and American Home Shield is great.

If someone would ask me about American Home Shield, my frank and honest answer would be to put their money in their savings account and don’t bother with a home insurance company. We had some plumbing issues that needed to be fixed on our hot water heater prior to closing on our home ‘cause we were selling our house. So my husband called and it took a week from the time to when they sent someone to do the service. It was because they gave us a date that we weren’t gonna be home, which was three days from the claim and then it was probably a week after that before they came out.
While the technician was professional and he was good when he was there, there were a lot of issues back and forth with American Home Shield. There was the canceling your appointment with a plumber or the plumber was a no-call and no-show and had to reschedule. In fact, it took four weeks to get the whole thing straightened out and it took a few calls from me to the management of plumbing company. At one point, I had called American Home Shield and said that we don’t have any sort of claim from the plumber. The plumber never contacted us. The plumber was supposed to call American Home Shield and find out the estimate for what they would cover and what they wouldn’t. And apparently, he called the day that he said he was gonna call, which is the day he came out and when I called American Home Shield because they were supposed to call us with an estimate, they never called.
So, I called American Home Shield back to find out where the estimate was and they told me that they don't have any record of the plumber calling. To cut the story short, American Home Shield finally found the quote after a lot of back and forth. All in all, while the water heater was repaired, I felt like we ended up coming out of pocket so much that there was no point in having American Home Shield at all.
Good afternoon Kelley,

When my hot water heater stopped working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield on the phone. Other than that, my refrigerator was getting snow inside in the freezer. So AHS sent a person out and got it evaluated. He told me he had to go back and order three parts and I have not heard from him since then.
I called American Home Shield and they said that they'll send an email and have them contact me and them to tell us what's going on. I still haven’t heard anything and I’ve called that company twice and all I got was a recording. Now, my refrigerator’s getting worse because it looked like completely snow inside for some reason. All in all, while I'm not very dissatisfied with American Home Shield, everything is just taking too long and I'm not having any progress at all. Somehow, they should have control over these contractors. They have to tell them what’s going on after they come out.

I have had AHS since October and have used their services several times. I am happy we have a home warranty. My issue is with communications. The website was down several times a couple weeks ago. I couldn't log on when it was back up, so they had to reset my password, twice. At that point I could communicate by online chat but that has disappeared for the last few weeks. Now there is no way to communicate by email or online chat. Phone waits are usually about 20-25 minutes.
There is no listed direct line to appliance purchasing (if you need to get a replacement appliance) so you have to wait for an available agent, and then get transferred to appliance purchasing, and wait again. My online profile didn't list the appliance replacement so there was no contact information for the delivery company. Luckily I had made a note of the number when they first called. Same with the appliance installer (because you need one appointment for the delivery, and one another day for the installation), not noted on my profile but again I had noted the number. There was also no written confirmation of the conversation. I had to order the dishwasher. I had ordered for replacement. Again, I had made a note of the make and model so I was able to confirm the correct unit had been delivered.
Another problem was a copper water line to my fridge. The coupler for the line is considered "plumbing" so when the appliance repair person discovered the source of the leak, a plumber had to be sent out. But the plumber can't move a built in fridge. I had to convince both companies to coordinate their schedules so the appliance person could be there to pull the fridge for the plumber. No one was happy and I can appreciate why. I had asked American Home Shield to try and coordinate all this and they declined. I had told American Home Shield they could make the appointment any time and day the whole month except one day. It took way too long to get both contractors out and get this resolved. Again, I am happy we have the warranty because we have already had a few things that needed repair, but communicating with American Home Shield is a full time job.
Good morning Tania,

So another 2 days before I can get something scheduled - now it's Friday. Got a quote from the my HVAC company.
Called AHS - but apparently they have to talk to the tech himself (not me, not the company office, they HAVE to talk to the tech personally.) Obviously the tech isn't going to answer a random 1-800 number calling on a Friday evening so I'm stuck for at least another 3 days (Saturday, Sunday + 1 day for parts to be delivered) assuming they even approve the claim.
Previously had them out for a plumbing issue and the plumber was not certified to climb on the roof to access the cleanout, so had to spend ~$400 with Roto-Rooter to get the issue fixed. buyer beware on this company - when they say 48 hour repair - they are talking about BUSINESS hours- so be prepared to wait up to 4-6 DAYS. It takes 24-48 hours to even get a supervisor to call back when I asked for one. TERRIBLE service level.

My AC started giving me trouble on Tuesday. I tried to submit a request for service on the AHS website but the website kept going down. So I thought no problem I'll just call so I submitted the request through their automated system. This was at 11am on Tuesday. Website says they'll assign someone within 15 minutes but no one was assigned until midnight (I know this because I got a text message at 12:18am notifying me). The company they assigned is nowhere near my location but I thought maybe it was a big company with a large working radius. They gave me instructions that they'd contact me within 24 hours to schedule service. Didn't hear from the contractor so I thought okay no big deal. I'll just call them - maybe they didn't get my info from AHS or something like that. No answer had to leave a vm.
Still thinking no big deal I'll just wait for them to call back - I bet they're at lunch or something. 24 hours later still no call back just to schedule service. I expected they'd need some time before actually coming out to look at my AC but I did not expect to wait days just to get an appointment. I tried calling AHS to speak with customer service several times but after wading through 7 different prompts I kept getting put on hold for 5 minutes. Read the reviews for the contractor and on other sites including BBB and they were awful and almost all of them were through an AHS customer. Several people complained to AHS directly and were told they would no longer be working with that contractor but that was months ago. Decided to cancel both the request for service and the home warranty policy.
Obviously the contractor isn't too interested in the work. And if this is the kind of contractor and service AHS is cool with then I don't want to be doing business with AHS either. I finally spoke with John in Billing who said he would remove my payment information and then send me to the retention department but after waiting on hold (another 5 minutes - literally) he came back and said that he wasn't able to get ahold of them and that he would have them call me back to process the cancel within 24-48 hours. Never worked with a home warranty company before so I wasn't sure what to expect but if this is it I'd rather just hang on to my money. I'm just sorry they got a year's worth of premium from me before I found out it wasn't worth it.

Thereafter, I was submitting another request and no one ever called me for that one so I canceled it. That time, I really called because no one had called me and it wasn't very helpful. I have been a customer for over 3 years. Some has gone terribly bad with AHS customer service. 45 min long waits to reach anyone and when you do if the India phone personnel answer the call there is a 90% they’ll disconnect you. Also they are quick to deny and no one from AHS calls you to go over the reasons. Two back to back claims a garage door opener which started smoking when we closed the garage door denied and is not clear how the denial fits the contractual agreement. Now an A/C unit and I can’t reach anyone as the A/C AHS contractor failed to make a report to them. The worst is the wait the clueless India customer service personnel.
It appears they are reading a script and questions are redundantly asked. Plus you cannot understand what they say. I have two contracts and was going to buy a third one but I am definitely looking into cancelling and going somewhere else. I am writing this while waiting now 39 minutes on my 2nd call as the India employee disconnected my call of course after I waited 50 minutes the first time. 24 hour service is a joke. The AC repairman said is not the AC but the electrical so I am trying to get AHS to know about this as we have a child with disabilities and have been without an AC for several days. But I can’t reach anyone. Ok I just got disconnected again and never got to talk to anyone. Waited 46 minutes this time.

We had trouble with our dryer not heating and not turning on. And so I called American Home Shield and we had a really good service. I filed the claim online and I loved their website. The navigation was easy. The technician was super professional. He had to change rollers in the dryer drum and an element in the dryer, and the dryer has been working fine since then. I would absolutely recommend AHS. They were easy to work with and very helpful.

We purchased this house the beginning of March and so, we’ve had American Home Shield for three months. When I was purchasing the plan, I talked with their reps a couple of times and they were very nice. I like that I can go online and submit a request. It was very easy and the experience has been simple so far. It was just a couple of days when we realized that one of the air-conditioning units in our house wasn’t working. It was in a room that we didn’t use a lot so we didn’t catch it at first. So when we realized that there was a problem, I went online, submitted the request and I paid the $75. They wanted to come the very next day but I wasn’t available so, they came the next day. It turned out that it was the thermostat that was bad and they put in a new one. The technician did it right then and he was at the house in less than an hour.

The recent preparation for the air conditioner was good and the contractor sent by American Home Shield solved the problem. But I was not very pleased with the first two reports. The problem was not from the American Shield but from their service provider. I sent a home inspection report to the provider and at that time, they already knew that they cannot provide the service for the air conditioner but they still sent a technician to come. If they already knew that they cannot provide the service, then they didn't need to come and charge me.

American Home Shield has been great to work with. Any time I have issues, they send someone out for me. Everyone has been very professional. Recently, I had the HVAC guy come out because of my air conditioning unit since there was a pipe that was disconnected. He knew exactly what to do when he went up there. He cleaned everything out for me. He took some cautionary measures and then explained to me what happened. So everything has been very smooth sailing with anyone that I've had come over to help me out with the services.

The first plumber that American Home Shield sent out looked at the problem. However, he wasn’t equipped with his equipment because he wanted a very small snake which you can go to Home Depot and buy. He was snaking it that way and it didn’t work. I said, "Look, I know it's just a backup. Actually I can tell." And he was trying to say that, "No, there was roots in there and trees and all that kind of stuff." I had my house redone just two years ago and had everything done. I knew it wasn’t any roots or anything in there. So, he said he couldn't do it. And I didn’t know he was noting that on the paperwork where he put on there that there were roots or something.
He left and I called American Home Shield back and told them what happened. They said, "Oh, we don’t do that if there's any roots," because they said they may need a camera to go down there and look at it. And he didn’t have a camera. The plumber told American Shield that apparently. AHS said, "Well, we don’t fix that type of work." And I said, "Look, I know it's not that." And they continue to tell me they wouldn't fix it. I called another plumber that's actually used with American Home Shield and they happened to come out one time before. They went on and fixed it and they were gonna charge me more than what originally the price was but because I was an AHS customer and they came out before and I requested them, they cut the price to $175.
I paid for it and I was really ticked because he just came in here, took him 20 minutes just snaking out here with a big snake, one of those that come with motor, and went all the way down, came back up and it was tissue. He pulled it all out and he went on and he was done in 20 minutes. So I called AHS several times for them to take care of it. I talked to several people and they kept saying no. I knew I was right so I kept calling. I told them that I'm a realtor, I was in new construction, I've redone homes so I knew about plumbing. I just can't do it. I knew that it needed a bit more snaking. I even called the city because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t from the street so I did my homework. The city came out and they said, "No, ma'am. It's right here on your property in this drain." So that's when I called American Home Shield and they finally came through and said, "Okay, we'll pay for that." And they sent me a check for it.

I have American Home Shield for two years now and timing is part of the warranty. It was okay to submit a claim if they would come out and do the work. In the past, when I had a leak in my ceiling, I was told that it was coming from the roof around the pipe. However, the contractor doesn't tell anyone to go up on the roof and that was part of the problem. About a year ago, when the contractor was trying to get our washer fixed, they couldn't get the dryer out. He was an older gentleman who should not be trying to pick up a washing machine. They knocked a hole in the wall and he told us that they were gonna come back out and repair it. They never did so my husband needed to fix it himself. They told us they were gonna reimburse us and we haven't heard back from them.
Recently, I had a situation with my ice maker and my freezer and I hadn't gotten it resolved. The contractor came out and they replaced the ice maker. They put a whole brand ice maker since the ice would not come out and that the water would just drip out water and freeze. We got the new ice maker but the ice was still not coming out and they told us that it was the motor on the freezer. They knew what the problem was and the only thing that was said to me was that the ice maker needed to be replaced. I was told that we needed to pay another $100 to send somebody else out. This is about the third time that something like this happened. Several times, I've been told that I was gonna go to a whole new company but the only thing that was done was for it to go down on my bill. I was being charged for claims that I didn't even have.

My AC got low on cold air so I reported it to American Home Shield. I usually submit my claims online since I just pull up the link on my email and then go from there. I then shortly heard back from JK Plumbing & Heating out of Geneseo. The contractors were very professional and knowledgeable. They came and it was a locked up motor. They did their job in a timely manner and got it taken care of. We also worked with them to get a key to them so they could get in the house and do what they needed to do. The only thing was that they told me they were gonna call me when the part was in, but they never did. So, I called them and the next day they emailed me and were back out that Monday and had it replaced. We haven’t had any issues since.
Thanks for sharing your experience Josh. We are happy to know that your a/c is up and running. Thanks for choosing AHS. Have an amazing weekend.

American Home Shield’s claims process was super easy. I would file for it online and they would call back. I had a couple of claims with them. One for the plumbing and one for appliances. And then, with my dishwasher, my stove, my oven. They sent someone out and the first guy said that it was not regular wear and tear and it was strange water damage. So they sent out a second opinion and the second opinion said, “No. It’s fine.” And they’re fixing it. So I’ve been very happy, but that first one was just really weird. But everything was really well. It was handled very professionally. They haven’t made the repairs yet, but I’m very glad that I switched over. I used to have Sears for my appliances and they were progressively getting worse, were difficult to work with and very unprofessional. So far, I have recommended AHS to my sister and to a couple of my friends.

They gave me all the information that I need and who’s coming and who’s gonna call me. So, it’s good. When they sent Third Generation, I had a fairly good experience. They took my washer and tried to repair it and brought it back and I had to call them back the second time. They came back and took a second look at it. I had to ask a lot of questions to the second guy who came out to try and understand what he had done and what he was doing. And I was really kind of not pleased with that. We thought we had a plumbing leak through the slab because of the weather. I called American Home Shield to file a claim, and I explained the situation as I understood it at that time. I called them on a Thursday and they couldn’t get anybody out until Monday. When the plumber came and started to fix the problem, he discovered it was not a slab leak. He started investigating and finally found it under the kitchen cabinets where the dishwasher was. The water inlet valve of the dishwasher which is a plastic part had split and that was where the water was coming from. It was just running out under the cabinets and coming out in a different spot. When he found that, he said that he couldn’t fix it. He had to call an appliance guy who then came out the next day. He had to order the part, and he came back again on Friday and got the dishwasher fixed.
The plumber completed his part on Thursday. It was a hose bib that was leaking really badly, and he tried to put a new washer on it but that didn’t work. He said that the assembly was just worn out and needed to be replaced. He was trying to put that on. He got the new hose bib cross-threaded and it split the pipes so we had to cut the pipe off. He had to come back later with a new hose bib which was not a terrible inconvenience to us. He was very apologetic and fixed it nicely. Overall, both the plumber and the appliance guy did what they needed to do, and everything got fixed so I'm happy.

The air conditioning compressor outside started making a horrible noise. So, we called American Home Shield and their technician came out. He said that one of the plugs was loose and needed to be reconnected. And that was fine. That worked about two days. And then, it started making noise again. We called AHS and the technician came out. He worked around it and said it was all working again. And then two or three days later, it started making noise again. The technician came out and replaced the motor. And that worked for three to four days through the weekend. And then it just stopped working. The technician came back out for the fourth time and said, "Well, the whole unit is 20 years old. This just needs to be replaced. I'll put it in the paperwork to American Home Shield. And it usually takes them 24 to 48 hours to make a decision." And that's what we're waiting on.
The technicians were very professional. They've come out four times but we were charged just one time. However, it was a frustrating experience. You would think after a ticket is put in four times on the same call on the same product within a three-week period that someone from AHS would call and say, "What's going on?" But no one at AHS seems to care. Nonetheless, I've had American Home Shield for 20 years. I've had it on five different properties. And we did change over a couple of times and tried other companies. But we always came back to American Home Shield. Everyone in this industry doesn't seem to care about customer service. And American Home Shield is just not as bad as the least.

I've had a lot of issues with a contractor that American Home Shield sent out. They have this contractor that does electrical, plumbing, and heating and air repair, and I've had all of those issues. For a couple of plumbing issues I had, this contractor replaced the garbage disposal unit but the kitchen sprayer was still broken. So, I went for weeks without a kitchen sprayer and I couldn't even use the sink because, if I turned the water on, it would come out all over the place. The contractor wouldn't call me back and quit texting me back, so I ended up buying and putting in the part myself because I had company coming and I needed to use my kitchen sink.
Then the next issue I had was right before Christmas. I had a bathroom faucet that would change from the spout to the shower. The same contractor sent a tech, but I never heard back from him after his first visit. It turned out that he was fired, but nobody contacted me and it took me until May to get that issue resolved. They cancelled on me three or four times and I had taken time off from work to be home when they said they'd come.
That contractor was awful. They said it was impossible to find a part that was needed. Finally, they ordered the part after a month, after I gave them the link where they could order it. But when the techs came out, they didn't put the part in because they got the unit to work. But they charged American Home Shield $500 for that part. The electricians, though, that came out for an electrical issue, that were from the same company but from a different department for electrical repairs, were okay and they did what they were supposed to do.
Now, I'm having a heating and air issue. It has been over three weeks since the first time that the tech came out. He said that he replaced my capacitor. But when that didn't fix the problem, he said that the unit needed a new fan and he would have to order that. Then he came back a week later with the fan, but he said that the fan was not the problem and that he was in a hurry that night when he first came and he didn't diagnose the problem well.
The temperature is in the mid-90's. My 89-year old mother lives in that house that has no air conditioning, so she has to go other places in the afternoon because it's so hot there. The tech said someone would call me the next day because the whole unit needed to be replaced and a different person would come to do the installation. But it has been over a week and I have not heard that other person. The contractor hasn't called me to schedule anything or let me know anything. I sent them an email yesterday and I haven't heard back from them.
When they called to renew my policy, I mentioned to a rep at American Home Shield not to send this contractor back out, but they didn't address the issue. Also, my policy went up $250 from the first year to the second year. Nevertheless, American Home Shield was very responsive, although their contractor was not.

And then a couple of days later we got contacted by someone else, and again, we got contacted by someone else another couple of days later. We had an issue with our AC. We submitted a claim with AHS and they assigned our claim with Interstate. When their techs first came out, they said it was Freon and there was a cap missing. They put it in, everything was fixed, and the unit worked for five days. Then there was no more Freon left and it completely leaked out. So, we did the whole process to get everything back started with American Home Shield.
The techs came back out again and they said that they didn't know what the problem was. They also said that the machine was old and the issue could be caused by several different things. Then they told us that they had to call American Home Shield to get something done. Afterwards, they put in some nitrogen in the system. Then they came back out, checked the nitrogen, and said that it didn't look like the nitrogen leaked. But obviously, we have a leak because we lost 25 pounds of Freon. They said they were gonna call American Home Shield since they didn’t know where the leak is coming from and they were gonna recommend a new unit. However, they left the nitrogen in because while they were recommending a new unit, they would have to get a second opinion to get a new unit approved. So, at this point, we can’t use the system at all to even circulate air because we got nitrogen sitting in our air conditioner system.
Then, American Home Shield called back and said that the contractor is going to put a sealant in the tubing and they’re gonna charge us for all the Freon which cost over $1000. And they kept saying that if we pay this $1000 dollars and the Freon leaks out, we’re covered for 30 days. I understand that our policy doesn’t cover the Freon and I’m not concerned about paying out of pocket. But I'm concerned that there was no warranty from the first time they came out and put Freon in the system. I called AHS several different times about this and we went back and forth for three weeks but nobody could answer that for me. Everybody just kept saying that they don't pay for Freon. We even asked Interstate directly how much a new unit would cost if American Home Shield doesn’t pay for this and that but they never got back to us. Supposedly, everything with American Home Shield got kicked back to Interstate yet they never reached out.
We also got a second opinion because American Home Shield couldn’t give us one and the result was slightly different. Again, the techs didn't know where the leak is and nobody could tell us what's wrong with the machine other than there's something wrong. As of now, I have somebody else coming out and they’re gonna just replace the system. They’re gonna figure out what’s wrong with the system so they can send everything back to American Home Shield and say what they found wrong with it. American Home Shield can then decide if they wanna help pay for anything.
If every rep I talked to told me the same thing at least three times in a row, it would have been a done deal and we would have replaced the air conditioner on our own dime without fighting anything. But every single person I talked to told me something different and the next person made it seem like the first person told me something incorrect. So, after talking to about 20 different reps and I could never get the same answer out of anybody, I thought there was something wrong with the system and I had to keep fighting their process.
Other than that, we've been with AHS for seven years and our experiences of filing claims with them for small appliances have been okay for the most part. When they came out to do our washing machine, we never had a problem. They also looked at something with the garage and the dishwasher and we never had an issue with those things. And we had them come out for the AC before and we ended up having to pay for the Freon. Then, when we had them come out for a leak in the bathroom, the company said it was one thing and American Home Shield said they didn’t cover it. But when we got our own plumber, it was completely something else. However, at that point, I did not know that I could haggle with American Home Shield and tell them that we got a second opinion. I didn’t know how the process all worked. But when you’re without AC, you tend to really start to read and discover that there are some other things you can do.

They contacted American Home Shield, then American Home Shield contacted me to let me know what was covered and any out-of-pocket expense, and then I contacted the other party to have them come fix the water heater.
I've had multiple claims with American Home Shield, and I've filed claims over the phone and online. The website was very clear. It had a dropdown list of items so it was easy to do. And then, when I called, it was also fine. They explained the process to me and let me know who would be servicing and gave me their phone number. So, both were easy and great.
My only complaint is that things can take a little longer because when I put in our claim for the air conditioner, it took about three or four days to get someone out here. And the same thing happened with the water heater. It took us a week to get it fixed and get the new one. But that's just part of the process. Then AHS got back to me and told me they would connect me with a local HVAC company, so I scheduled with them. The contractors came over and they replaced something and said everything was good. The AC has been working properly since they repaired it. But I'm just concerned because since I bought the house, it’s been making a weird, loud noise. The noise is still there but the contractor told me not to worry about the noise if the AC is working properly.
In every house, there are things that have to be fixed, like when my water heater broke down so I had to replace it. I've also had good experiences talking with the reps.
But a lot of the times, the companies will schedule you out for four or five days and then they'll say they'll call you the night before but they don't. I have been dealing with this company since the end of April over the same issue. (HVAC) They sent out a company Air Max and they wired my thermostat wrong. They had the reversing valve backwards, and he didn’t even put gauges on my unit to check anything. Was still having issues and called American Home Shield back. They were gonna send a different company to address the issue. Never heard or seen from them again. I called several time trying to talk with a supervisor. Depending who you talk to, they tell you supervisors don’t talk with people, or they are busy, or they will call you within 24-48 hours. That’s a joke as well because I have never heard from them. Since they drag their feet on helping me, I had to pay someone different out of my own pocket to come fix my unit. American Home Shield won’t pay for it because I didn’t preauthorize them coming.
Well I couldn’t take the heat any longer. So the company I hired fix the wiring in the thermostat and found a leak on my unit. I was four pounds low of R-22, which is not cheap either. Several days go on and the temperature in my upper level was still warmer than the rest of the house. I live in a Tri-level so it shouldn’t be that bad knowing all the ducts are pretty close. Well I called American Home Shield again to help resolve the mystery. They send the second company that was supposed to originally come out that somehow ended up with the wrong number. Once again poor communication. The company they sent was called Fast Response. They always called from a blocked number and I never had contact info.
The tech showed up in a minivan with no markings. I let them come out on the Holiday. I was not given a time, and of course I was last on the list to be serviced. The technician Bernie checked things out. He found a 13 degree difference in temperature from my furnace to my master bedroom alone. It’s only like 10 feet away. He was dumbfounded, and had to call his supervisor for some thoughts on the issue. They both did not know and couldn’t explain it. He then went out and checked the unit outside, and that was fine. He stated that he would send in his report and recommend the warranty company send someone out to check the duct work, and that it would be covered. I gave it two business days and called American Home Shield again, because they don’t call you back ever. After an hour and half on the phone they said the company closed the work order and stated that it was complete.
How I don’t know because the tech was clueless. So I set up a third company to come out, which was gonna cost another service fee, but at this point I just want it fixed. I told the customer service guy to send someone that know HVAC and ductwork, and he said ok. The company that called today was very direct with me, and stated that they don’t do ductwork and she did not want to waste my time and money. She cancelled the call. I did not know it would cancel everything. American Home Shield should have contacted me, oh yeah I forgot the customer service with this company is terrible. They take your money and let you get so irritated by giving you the runaround. You hire a company to fix it and you could’ve saved money by not using them... AMERICAN HOME SHIELD IS A JOKE OF A COMPANY!

Let me start off by saying when we signed up for American Home Shield we were very satisfied. Our first few service calls were quickly and professionally completed. However, over the past couple of years we've noticed a big change. The price continues to go up and the service has taken a nose dive. This may have something to do with the fact that originally repairs were done by a Sears repairman. Once Sears stopped doing the repairs we've gotten whatever local company was willing to take the job. At one point I had to actually call a local company that I've had prior experience with to complete the repair. When I asked him about American Home Shield he shook his head and said at one time they were actually one of the local contractors but it just wasn't worth the trouble.
I thought my worst experience would have been last year when we had our furnace replaced. We were charged $1600 to have a 'covered' item due to the 'modifications' needed to install the new furnace. After some investigation it appears this is a common tactic with furnace replacements. That was until our most recent repair however. We placed a service call on May 1st because our dishwashers started leaking all over the kitchen floor. A repairman showed up promptly the next day and we were told the dishwasher would need replaced. After waiting several days for American Home Shield to call and tell us what our options were I decided to call them. After several attempts to call, and being informed that they had an extremely high call volume each time and that it would be at least 35 to 45 minutes, I pressed 1 to be called back.
2 days later and no callback. I decided to call again to be informed that the computers were down and I would have to call back again! That is of course, unless I was trying to make a payment or putting in a new service request. Finally, I was able to get in touch with the appliance purchasing department and gave them all the information on the current dishwasher. I would receive an email or call to go over our options. Another 2 days later, is anyone keeping count because it's now been over a week, no call. I had to call again, and wait online line, AGAIN, for another 45 minutes only to give the information on the dishwasher AGAIN because apparently I hadn't been speaking with the department directly prior to this. So that we didn't have to call again we told the woman the model we wanted.
Tick, tick, tick. Several days later and NO CALL on the status of the dishwasher we were informed that we had to wait 14 days after choosing the replacement. So, after the 14 day waiting period, and a lengthy wait on hold, we were once again able to get in touch with the appliance purchasing to be told that the dishwasher was indeed ordered. We would be contacted by the installers with a date for installation. Several more days later, no call. My wife was finally able to track down the phone number of the company that was to install the dishwasher and set up a time. We are now in WEEK 3 for a simple dishwasher! The installers showed up at the house at which point they proceeded to give my wife several excuses as to why they could not install the dishwasher finally settling on 'the dishwasher was made wrong'. They took the dishwasher back and told my wife they would have to order a replacement.
Once again, we waited several days without a word from either the installer, GE or the installers, I attempted to contact the appliance purchasing again. This time being told it would be up to one hour because of 'higher than normal call volume'. May must be a very busy month at American Home Shield. I decide to call GE direct since we were getting nowhere with the installers. The person at GE was curious why I was calling them because they weren't permitted to talk to American Home Shield customers directly. However, she was nice enough to look up the information for me and I was told that the notes on our service indicated we REFUSED DELIVERY of the new dishwasher. I needed to contact American Home Shield's appliance purchasing as GE is not permitted to order a replacement and the installer should not have told my wife that THEY would be ordering one.
My wife spent the next day (and I say the next day I mean 9 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!) trying to get a replacement ordered. She left no less than six voicemails for managers and spoke with at least 5 different operators before 'RESOLVING THE PROBLEM'. By the way, no one call back from any of those managers that would get back to us in the next 24 to 48 hours. For the next 4 days we were told every day that the 'dishwasher was ordered today'. At long last, the installers showed up today. AT 7:00 AM! With no warning. They brought the dishwasher into the house and informed my wife that they were not there to install the dishwasher only to drop it off. AND they were not responsible for taking the other one away. They proceeded to load to new dishwasher back on the truck and drove away.
My wife called the installers and was informed that they were not permitted to install dishwashers in our area. Hmmm, the same company that tried to install the dishwasher 10 days earlier now is not allowed to install the dishwasher? And then, because this whole situation hasn't been an absolute joke, my wife was informed by the installer that they couldn't install the dishwasher anyway and a new one would have to be ordered. Sooo, after contacting American Home Shield again, my wife was told that the new dishwasher would be 'delivered' next Monday. She had to track down some additional information and when she called back a few minutes later she was informed it would be delivered on Tuesday because they wouldn't be back in our area until then. The company is literally 10 minutes form our house! At this point American Home Shield still has not assigned anyone to install the dishwasher.
I'm currently taking bets on who thinks we will ever get the new dishwasher. I see by most of your other posts that you typically have someone in your social media department get in contact with the poster. Do not have anyone get in contact with me or my wife! We do not have a social media problem. WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR COMPANY WHICH IS WAAAY PAST BEING ABLE TO BE RESOLVED! Sincerely, A former customer.
Good morning Tom,
I understand your frustration with your most recent experience to have your dishwasher repaired through American Home Shield. There are a number of concerns that I read about such as the wrong part, hold times, and lack of contact. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve your issues.

I had an electric issue for my Wisconsin condo where this condo is still in Market from August 2017. Once every two weeks, my realtor will open my condo for showing. This month my realtor had an electric issue and none of the lights in the living room/Sunroom were working. Circuit breaker shuts off. Clearly an electric problem from normal wear and tear. As I never had this problem from June 2016 (when I purchased the condo).
I do have AHS protection as I am not staying in Wisconsin. Currently, I am in Atlanta area. Clearly, I have several problems with AHS in this month. I have protection and raised a work order - I didn't have an immediate response as I had to make 2-3 calls after 2-3 days to get it addressed. They don't have contractor assigned and I have to call them to get the contractor info.
The contractor is too busy and I had to call them back to get proper resolution. I had to make some more calls to get it addressed as the contractor is busy/no other open contractors in the area. I had to get outside contractor to fix the issue and expense it. Now when I call them back, AHS is informing me that my issue was not covered. If it is not covered, AHS didn't even update the work order and no email/no status update? It is not normal wear and tear? I have two AHS accounts and will be canceling them soon as I don't even like the customer care waiting times to get them understand.
Good evening Ravi,
I understand your concerns with the customer service you have experienced as well as the diagnosis to have the electrical system repaired in the condo. I am aware that a CIL offer was accepted today. I would be glad to speak with you and address any remaining concerns.

2.5 weeks since reporting a broken dishwasher. Countless calls between AHS and the company they contracted to fix it, terrible communication and no accountability to fix quickly. Escalation Dept also did not resolve, received calls from AHS that they had resolved but the contractor still has no record of how to proceed. Strongly advise against purchasing warranty from AHS. You will save time and money replacing appliances or finding a technician yourself instead of waiting for AHS to get their act together.
Updated on 06/05/2018: 3 weeks and still no resolution to a broken dishwasher. Technician took one week to arrive, another week for the diagnosis and another week for a technician to show up with parts only to tell us that they don't have the parts to fix it and there are multiple issues that need to be fixed and it will cost more to fix than replace. Most painful customer experience I have ever witnessed and no accountability to fix in a timely manner. I highly recommend thinking twice before choosing a large warranty company like AHS since they are stuck in process and not solving customer issues.
Hi Ryan,
I understand your concerns about the delay in service you have experienced to have your dishwasher repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the ongoing issues.

We purchased a new home that came with American Home Shield (AHS)! This was first experience with home warranty. The first use was for pool pump, and went very smoothly. The company responded and arrived promptly. The pump was seized up, was informed they needed approval (which was approved) before replacing. The second contact, was for septic (also new to us). Again, company quick and responsive.
This contact was a little more in depth, and not the same outcome of a happy homeowner! The tech, said problem was not covered. We assumed this as truth and pushed forward (no pun intended). We called around and after numerous companies found the help we needed. The last visit, wow... I will mention company name only for the fact so the rest of you can research before experiences like this. This visit for AC and company Total Air Care of Middleburg, FL. Placed service request, received appt for 6 days later. Tech arrived on time and polite. Went straight for inside unit upstairs in attic. I was watching as he was stating that it would up charge for freon due the location. The tech had not even been outside unit yet.
After few minutes, stated part was bad. He started to leave and I said, "Are you going to check outside unit," NO! It's not needed. I was told within 24 hrs would get call to set up return to replace. The call 2 days later, next tech responded different from first and still polite and on time. This tech went to attic with parts in hand. Proceeded to replace part and stated wrong part order quickly changed words and said part not bad. We proceeded to outside unit, where after opening panel, said here is problem control wire (and not covered).
After moving wire telling me options and him calling manager he said he could fix for 60 dollars half of normal cost. The tech put panel back on and left. I will tell not only did both try to get money for not covered items but didn't have the skills to do required checks. The didn't check with tools and or equipment. I'm not giving you a word for word just the basics. I called AHS, informed them of such. After a few calls back n forth through all parties, AHS is sending a second company. I posed a few questions/suggestions to AHS. The most important is how vetting is done, and referred them to numerous complaints reference above company (please do your research for any company working for you)!!! In my opinion, AHS should take its customer base (us) more seriously. Vetting needs to do with companies, and opinions do matter!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I just received my renewal bill and they taxed the amount! You cannot tax the amount you pay for a non tangible and then tax the deductible when the contractor comes to the house. That's DOUBLE taxing and ILLEGAL. Of course if you try to call AHS there is an hour wait to speak to an agent! I'll report here and to BBB.
Hello, Deb. Those are different taxes, one for the premiums and one for the service fee. If that is being charged then that is your state tax and it is not an illegal process. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to discuss your concerns.

My husband submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, which was super easy, and then they had somebody out right away. The contractors were great and everything’s working now. It was a good and easy experience for us.
Hi, Andrea. That is great news! Expedited service can be tricky sometimes but I am so glad to learn that we were able to get that plumber over to your home quickly.

I called American Home Shield since I just purchased this house and I wasn’t familiar with the coverage. I spoke with the representative and it was a pleasant interaction. The contractor contacted me within 48 hours and came out within five business days. They were very knowledgeable and I liked them a lot. The washing machine was not draining and the trap needed to be cleared out. Apparently, it hasn’t been done in a while. They brought out some mucky stuff that was the size of a grapefruit and there were a lot of them.
I’ll be working through all these problems the next month or two and they may get a couple more of my requests but after I have worked through these problems, there should not be a problem after that because it’s now just maintenance. It should taper off after a couple of months. If you don’t know the history of your appliances and the house because you don’t know how much maintenance has been placed on it, AHS is a great insurance policy so that you can cover yourself and work through all those problems.

The control panel on the dishwasher was not working. I submitted a claim online with AHS and the contractor they sent out was awesome. He saved a bunch of time because he had a pretty good idea what it was. He called me up and diagnosed it over the phone. So, I didn’t have to hangout half a day waiting for him. Then, once he got the part in that he needed, he made an appointment and didn’t give me a three-hour window. He told me when he would be there and he was there early. Then he got it done and he was great. It took a week or so from the time I submitted my claim until the dishwasher was repaired because he had to order the part and now it's working perfectly.
This is my second house where I had a policy with AHS. I had that for a year at a different house and now, I'm a couple of months in on this house. American Home Shield's customer service has been fine. When I called them to file a claim, the reps I talked to answered my questions. I've also done it online and so far, things have worked out conveniently.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the garage door that was not working and Superior Garage came out and made it work. The door is still working good since the repair. They did a good job. When I called American Home Shield, the claims representative was very nice. And the contractor worked on it the same day I called, and was very professional and resolved my problem.
The only concern I had was a few screws got lost and the warranty was only for the generator, and not for the mechanical things. In this case, it was the mechanical thing and the contractor put in a few screws. He fixed it in five minutes. However, he said that it was a courtesy work. He said that our warranty only covered the engine or the top box on the garage. If it is a mechanical issue of the garage door, it is not in their warranty. He said that American Home Shield only guarantees box, but I will prefer they should cover the whole thing because in my experience, most of the time, it is not a problem with the box.
Thank you for taking the time to advise us of your service experience. We appreciate the positive feedback.

A drain pipe was leaking, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the experience was easy. I did it online, and they sent me a confirmation stating that I had put in a request for service and then they sent out the information to Accent Plumbing. Accent Plumbing sent me a text message stating that they were gonna get in touch with me, which they did days later. We set up the date and they came over to my house. However, the contractors couldn’t fix the problem because I live in a condominium and it wasn’t part of the walls from the walls in. Anything that’s inside the wall is the responsibility of the HOA and anything beyond the wall is my responsibility.
Sometimes some of the contractors that come out are not very friendly and sometimes they just wanna get in and out, but I make sure I read through my contract. It's my responsibility to know what's covered and what's not, but I always do my due diligence and make sure what they’re gonna do is a possibility that they can fix or not. Sometimes they strike out, but, most of the time, I'm dead on and they end up fixing what I need to get fixed. I also had an air conditioning problem where the fan was staying on the whole time and an AC guy came out and they tested the system. The fan was changed immediately, which was covered.

The techs had to come out a few times, though, in trying to pinpoint the problem. The AC would blow cold for a few days and then it would stop, and it went back and forth. But they were able to get it up and running as it should.

I had a couple of ceiling fans that were acting up and I went online to submit the claim to AHS. Everybody was great and it was easy to do but the electrical company called me back and asked for details. I had multiple ceiling fans that needed to be looked at but they couldn't look at them unless I included them as an add-on to the work order which you can't do online. I had to call back, which was totally fine, but it would almost alleviate some of the issue if there was a way to give additional information and I wish there was a “Notes” field.
When the contractors came, they were extremely early to the point where they were waiting and harassing us. They were there and asking where I was. But I was across the country at the time and I had no idea what was going on. But my husband dealt with them and he said they were fine. We need to have the contractors come back out because they forgot to look at one of the fans and I told my husband that they knew there were three. But they're coming back again to do an installation at some other point so we're just going to approach them about it. This is the second claim that I filed and I've been really happy with AHS. Everything has been great so far.
Hi, Alisa. We are so happy to know that your claims have gone through without any real concerns. We agree that the online process should allow you to add more than one of the same item. That is definitely a suggestion that we continue to push.

It wasn’t low on Freon and wasn’t leaking Freon. The contractor was very nice and professional.
I had never used American Home Shield before and in a way, this was kind of a test to see how it worked and it worked very well. They were very responsive to the whole process. I’ve had two separate calls with American Home Shield. Right after the plumbing issue, my washer broke down. It all seemed to happen right at once. But all my problems were resolved. I submitted a claim online and it was easy. I didn’t let them send a specific contractor for the washing machine because I read the reviews about that contractor and they were reviewed so bad. So I called American Home Shield and told them that and they said sometimes it takes them a few weeks to get people off their list. But they sent someone out who I had a very good experience with.
I had to wait a little long for the washing machine because a part had to be ordered. But it was fixed within a week, which probably isn’t long when you have to order parts. But without a washing machine, it felt like eternity to me. Everything is working perfectly now and I’m so thankful. I feel very good about AHS, especially because they gave me no problem when I said, “Please don’t send that. Please make a change.” They agreed with me. I was kind of prepared for a pushback, but everything was good.

The techs wore boot overlays when they came in. They were in and out and they did what they had to do.
I also had my washer worked on before. The first contractor that came did a horrible job. They kept trying different stuff and it was like they were gonna try everything. They came out twice, but they couldn't fix my washer. So, I had to call and tell AHS that they were shysters. Then AHS had another contractor come out and they fixed my washer right away. Our refrigerator was making a weird noise and we weren’t sure what it was. We were getting ready to go on a trip so I didn’t want it to be unattended while we were gone for two weeks. We called American Home Shield. The technician came out and looked at the refrigerator but didn't find anything wrong, although it is almost a 30-year-old refrigerator.
My experience with some of the AHS contractors has not been all positive. The last time I had a refrigerator call, the guy from AmTech had to come back. He said that my freezer was over freezing so there was a lot of ice buildup even though there wasn’t supposed to be. He used a hammer and a pick to get that out, and I was unhappy. He was not as pleasant as I would have expected, but he also didn’t like that I was trying to tell him what to do. But he had to come back for a callback because he didn’t empty the pan underneath the refrigerator and it overflowed and started leaking all over the floor.
Also, I have to adjust my expectations. The last time we had a claim on my air conditioner unit downstairs, the technician who came out said that the whole thing needed to be replaced and it was $4000 to $5000. He thought it was a 1987 unit and did not recognize that that unit had been upgraded already. AHS only gave me an allowance because that technician said things that didn’t need to be replaced had to be replaced. When I went back to American Home Shield, it was always an argument. They’re supposed to minimize their claim. But it is extremely difficult to get them to pay for what they're advertising. They advertise to cover everything, but they have exceptions. But overall, we’re breakeven and I feel like American Home Shield is a good thing to have. They're valuable if one knows what to expect.

I called American Home Shield twice for the dishwasher and the air conditioner. Calling them was easier for me 'cause I didn't know if I was gonna have a problem getting things I needed. It was two different claims so I took off work and got both of them done on the same day. The guy who came to fix the dishwasher was superb and very professional. He told me exactly what was wrong. When he had to leave to go to his truck to get a motor for my dishwasher, he let me know that he was leaving and he was coming back. He went out to the car, even rang the doorbell when he came right back in, so I knew who it was.
He cleaned up everything and didn’t leave a mess. He put a new motor in and told me he wasn’t allowed to remove the old motor from the property, so he put it in the box that the other one came in, folded it, then told me I would have to dispose of it myself, which was no problem. He told me if I had any problems, just to contact him directly. He was great.
But the AC one was absolutely horrible. First, he came and I explained to him that my house was extremely hot. It was 80 degrees outside and it was burning up. He went outside, looked at it and said that the Freon was leaking because he could see where it was frozen. He said that he would have to let it thaw out, and he would come back after a couple of hours. I asked him if he wouldn't do something to it to make it thaw out. I have enough sense to know that it would not gonna thaw on its own and he has to put a fan on. He said that he would possibly come back in a few hours. I asked him what he meant by possibly. It was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and I had other things to do that day. I asked him if he meant to tell me I might stay there for three hours and he may or may not come back.
He said that he might not come back and maybe somebody from the company will come back but he doesn’t know who that will be and he can’t give us guarantees. I was a bit upset about that but I said that I'll call American Home Shield because it was not the proper service I was expecting. He went outside, and must have called the company, and they told him he had to stay until the work was done. He told me that I need to go in the house and turn the fan on. I told him that he needs to do it and he was the one contracted to do the work, not me. I didn’t want to turn the fan on incorrectly which could result to the block of ice not melted like he wanted. So, he came in and did the necessary adjustments.
The house was miserably hot, so we both rested for 30 minutes, then, he came back and fixed it. I thought I was okay with it but then this weekend, my boyfriend happened to look in the garage and saw that the technician took the air filter off the air conditioner unit and never put one back. The old filter was lying on the ground and he never replaced it with a new one so I still had to go to Home Depot yesterday and buy a new air filter. We had to put it in which was totally unacceptable when we just spent money having somebody to come and service it. I have heard negative things in the past, but I wanted to try American Home Shield for myself because I was told that the company is good for sending contractors out. I wouldn't recommend them and I was about to cancel them to try somebody else, but my boyfriend told me to stick it out a little bit longer, and just see how it goes. But I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them.

Plumber was not on their "preferred vendor list." Was told if we got the vendor added to list, it was possible to be reimbursed for the $1141 out of pocket. Went through hoops, got the plumber to register as a vendor. Now AHS says vendor (Benjamin Franklin Plumbing) is on their "do not use" list. I asked them to reimburse what they think is fair, and they won't pay a single penny. Very disappointing, when it was clearly an emergency situation and we were willing to accept a reduced payment. We won't be renewing our policy, to say the least.
Hi Kim,
I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the water line that burst and the emergency repairs that were completed. Per the review, I am aware that you are seeking a reimbursement for the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve the situation.

I am extremely disappointed with the level of quality in fixing my air conditioning problems. I have a tenant that complained about air conditioning problems, multiple service requests and copays and premiums later, in the hot summer, the same problem came up again. In hot Texas weather the A/C was not working. AHS contractors are worthless and said they need 7 days to schedule repair. Repair was not even their own diagnosis but my own property management company vendor diagnosis. So I had to go outside of AHS to get this repair done within a day or two so that my tenant is happy. Super bad experience and I will not recommend AHS to anyone. They have already raised my monthly premium and service is sub par at best.
Hi Surya,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the AC system repaired at the rental property. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

My sister, an insurance adjuster, highly recommended AHS to us after receiving great service for multiple problems with her home in Dallas, TX. We purchased our warranty around three years ago. Since then, I have only requested service twice. The first was for our boiler for baseboard heat roughly two years ago. AHS could not find a service outfit to fix it. I was forced to research my own resource for which AHS reimbursed me the roughly $1400 price of the heater element. AHS, upon seeing the invoice, and out of lack of familiarity with boiler systems, felt I could have replaced the entire boiler for that pittance and dropped my coverage for my heating system. I almost dropped AHS then, but wound up keeping them for peace of mind when I travel.
I have not requested further service until February of this year when our dishwasher malfunctioned. Numerous calls to AHS and numerous referrals by AHS have resulted in only one service visit, which did not fix the problem. AHS has assigned other repair agencies and has instructed me to call them myself. The one time I did, the customer service agent would not take my word that AHS was covering the work, and called AHS themselves instead.
At this point, I don't believe AHS has a qualified repair agent in their network and is simply kicking the can down the road in hopes I'll take my problem elsewhere and just go away. I say this because the only communications I have received in the last couple of months is yet another email notifying me a service agent has been assigned after I initiate communications, but not once has AHS contacted me via phone or email for feedback on how my repairs are going, or if a service agent even contacted me after assigning them to me. While I believe AHS is probably a good outfit based on my sister's experience in another part of the country, I believe buyers should do their due diligence and check to ensure AHS has viable service in their area. I have numerous emails to back-up my statements and am perfectly willing to share them.
Good morning Giles,
I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the dishwasher repairs that need to be completed and your overall experience with AHS. I would be glad to speak with you and hopefully get the issues resolved.

Do not ever ever ever use this company. I have filed 4 claims in the past 9 months and not a single one of them ever got fixed or the contractors never showed up for the appointments. I live in Chicago, where it is a pretty big city and you would think that there wouldn't be a shortage of contractors to come out. Then when you call the phone number, you're on hold for 1-2 hours every single time and then they are rude to you. I am disputing every credit card charge that they ever placed on my card for poor performance. I mean nonperformance. Don't do it folks.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I purchased the Shield-Complete package with the additional add ons for Septic and Well. Why? Because I was assured major components were covered (as it states in their shiny brochure and contract). The house I bought is 3 times the size of my last home. I have been saving for this type of purchase for 15 years. The house was built in 1985 and many of the systems are older. So I bought this policy to cover any unforeseen issues that may not have been caught during the home inspection or break, in general.
Once we moved in a few weeks ago we quickly realized that heat was not working in the living room (Zone 1) but it was broiling hot in the other end of the first floor (Zone 2). The 2nd floor was colder too but still felt warm, probably because heat rises (Zone 3). So my HVAC friend came to look at the system. One of the zones was manually shut which we assumed was because the house was vacant and they didn't want to waste too much heat over the winter. He then inspected the automated controller arms which regulate the zones. He said all 3 were pretty much shot and to call AHS about it. So a mechanical company came out and verified that the zone controller boxes need to be replaced. They put in the claim to AHS and AHS has denied the claim. They said "Dampers" are not covered. I explained it's not the damper. It the mechanical system that controls the zone. Still denied.
I called back again to escalate to a supervisor. An agent got back on the phone and said that the manager said it's not covered because it's considered "ventilation". I said "OK. But ventilation is covered because you cover HVAC and the V is ventilation." He said no, and referred me to the exclusions section which states, Flues, Chimneys, Venting and Exhaust pipes are excluded. I said that is venting for the chimney and he disagreed. Last week it was so hot that we finally tried the AC and that doesn't even work on the 2nd floor.
I have filed a complaint with the insurance commissioner. I tried again yesterday to resolve and said I would get my Atty. involved. They said to go ahead and do that. Apparently there is no way to get this issue in front of someone who can do anything about it. I also said they first called in dampers and that isn't excluded and she agreed and said it doesn't say it's included either so that is their discretion. It is contract fraud to say you cover HVAC but not the V. It's insane. I found out yesterday that the estimate is $1300. AHS would rather take this to court.
Updated on 06/01/2018: Part 2- I finally received a call and they are still denying claim. They are saying that the "Automated Controller boxes" are "Dampers" and "Dampers" are not covered. I said they aren't listed in Exclusions and they said they aren't listed in Inclusions so essentially it's at their discretion. So I plan on going to small claims court but there is a clause in the contract that states you must get them to agree first or you have to go to Mandatory Arbitration at adr.org. So I called to get the agreement and the agent doesn't know where to get that information. Suggest I called corporate but she doesn't know the phone #.
Good morning Jennifer,
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your AC systems repaired through the warranty. Also, I understand that you have been denied coverage for the ventilation system. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

The first company that American Home Shield sent out told me he had never worked on a Whirlpool dishwasher before. Whirlpool is one of the oldest brands and the tech has been in the business for 30 years but he had to study what he needed to do. There was something stuck in the bottom and the motor. He told me I could still run it but it would make a lot of noise. My husband called American Home Shield and complained and they sent out another company. The tech that came has been out before on something else. He was very professional, very nice, and timely. Since the repair, the dishwasher has been running perfectly.
American Home Shield should take out that first company from the list because the tech was not very good and he was very unprofessional. Other than that, everything worked really easy and it was easy to file an online claim. We sing praises for American Home Shield. If you have an older home and things go wrong, it will save your money in the long run. It's $600 a year but it will cost you a lot more than that sometimes when you have to have somebody come out. And with a $125 service call, that's not bad. We've had them out on our swimming pool heater and we were very satisfied with the company they sent for that as well. They also came out for my cooktops and oven. I'm a realtor and American Home Shield is one of the three warranties that I suggest. We're very satisfied.
Hello, Denise. Thank you for your positive feedback. We do understand that not technicians are as knowledgeable as others, we appreciate your patience while we located someone else to diagnosis that dishwasher issue. We're also pleased to know that you trust us enough to refer us to new homeowner's.

I have a 18 month old Kenmore Elite refrigerator. I didn't buy the extended warranty for it because I had American Home Shield already in place. It stopped cooling so I called them. A service technician showed up within two days which I was happy with. He informed me it needed a new control board and the part would have to be ordered. He sent me a copy of the work report he sent to American Home Shield. That was on a Wednesday. I called on Saturday to check the status and was told the parts dept was closed. I called back on Monday and they still hadn't ordered the part. Then I got a call on Wednesday of that week telling me the part would take two weeks to get. Or I could take a cash payment of 350 dollars.
I told them I wanted the part. I waited over two weeks and called them again. After 50 minutes on hold a person answered and told me their system was down and to hang up and call them back immediately. I said that was unacceptable after a 50 minute hold time. I didn't want to wait at the end of the line again. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said ok and put me on hold for 10 more minutes before they hung up. I called back, waited 55 minutes and got another person. She informed me that no part had been ordered for my refrigerator. I was quite upset as you might imagine.
After I asked to speak to her supervisor I was put on hold for 5 minutes when she came back on and told me my part was now on order with a due in date of another week. I still asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me there wasn't one available and that one would call me back immediately. Unbelievably no supervisor ever called me back. I will continue with this company until I get my refrigerator fixed as I have been with them for over 2 yrs and this is my only claim. I have paid them probably around 1500 dollars total and this is the service I have received.

I feel really good about submitting my claims to AHS because they typically get it done pretty quickly and what I appreciate is the fact I already know who I'm dealing with. I have their local contact information and I really liked the technicians. I get all the information really quickly too. Everybody is always great and I've never had an issue.
When there was a leakage under the kitchen sink that had caused some damage, I called AHS and it was pretty much taken care of quickly the way it always is. The plumber came in. He found the leak and he fixed it. Everything is great since the repair. The only issue I had was the contractors didn’t clean up after themselves. And so, when he ripped out the insulation and the damaged drywall, all of that stuff was just left there when he left. I did call them and they said, "We really don’t do that. We just find the leak and fix the leak." So, the second phase of that was to have a drywall person come in and that person ended up having to clean up after the plumber. But my experience with AHS has been great. I have been a customer for a long time and I plan to remain a customer. Everything has been fantastic and I do feel confident enough that if there was an issue, I would be able to call and get it resolved pretty quickly.
Thanks for sharing your honest experience Roslyn. I apologize for the tech not cleaning up after the repair. We are happy to know that in spite of the lack of clean up, you are still overall pleased with AHS. Thanks for being apart of the American Home Shield family. Have an amazing week.

I didn't like my experience with American Home Shield and I already told my husband to switch. The AC was leaking into the basement floor under my carpet. My husband submitted a claim online and then, I got a text message from the contractor. He came on a Saturday and checked the AC. He said he didn’t find anything wrong and we should just change the filter which we do on a regular basis and it still leaks. American Home Shield had to call the people out again and we still had to wait. Somebody else came a few days later and fixed the problem. However, every time American Home Shield sends somebody out, they don't get it right the first time and we have to keep on calling. I don’t like having to wait and having something broken, and having the repair rescheduled over and over again. I also don't like that AHS sends people from Woodbridge instead of local people in Centreville. I've asked to have people closer to come and AHS would say no.
Hello, Leslie, We apologize that you have had to place recalls on your service requests in order to have the issues corrected. We do value your patronage over the years and will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to discuss your concerns.

My central air broke down so I reached out to American Home Shield online and they had someone here two days later to take a look and asses what was wrong. This was last week so I reached out to them again and spoke with someone last night. I’ve got a newborn and they told me that what I needed is on the way. They told me that if I need to go and pick up a new air conditioner, they’ll reimburse me and that was super. So, right now, I'm waiting for that to be resolved.
I’ve had four claims with AHS and they told me that somebody would get in touch with me within 48 hours and if I don’t hear from them, I can reach out to them. I’ve gone three over four with people giving me a call the next morning. The technician was here when he said he would be and it was great. Everything that I've put in has been addressed and fixed more than to my satisfaction. It’s terrific. I can't tell people enough how great American Home Shield has been so, I'm happy that I've had the opportunity to do so.

There was an issue with my heating and air conditioning system and a separate issue with a blown fuse. I filed claims for them online with American Home Shield and I got an email back. The contractor that they sent for the blown fuse was very good. He looked at the issue and was able to fix it. For the heating and air problem though, AHS sent Myers Air Conditioning Heating & Plumbing out of Montgomery, Alabama and they gave me a bogus crew who did not know what they were doing. Myers even tried to charge me $3,000 more than the service was worth.
I contacted AHS three different times and told them that I know that what the contractor was doing was wrong. AHS told me that Myers is their service people for the area and that was all there was to it. I didn't feel comfortable with American Home Shield anymore, so I dropped them and changed over to someone else. I liked American Home Shield but their sub-contractor was very dishonest. AHS should do a better job of checking out their sub-contractors.

My last experience with American Home Shield wasn't very good. The drain outside happened on a Friday on Memorial Day weekend. I called but I didn't get good responses from anybody. The first lady was very cold and uncaring. I told her my plumbing did not work. My shower was backed up, my toilets were overflowing, and I couldn't use any water. I couldn't take a shower and I couldn't do laundry. It was completely clogged up. I asked her if she could expedite the service so I can get this thing unclogged because I can't wait until Tuesday. She said no and that they don't expedite service. So I asked her what I was supposed to do and she said it was not their problem. I then asked if I can use another company and she said no and I just have to wait.
So I then called again and talked to another representative about it. He was asleep and kept on yawning. I tried talking and waited for a response. He never responded so I finally yelled at him. Tuesday rolls around and I called this other lady and told her my experience. I told her I had to hire another company to come unclog it because I couldn't wait until Tuesday. I asked if I could at least get reimbursed and she said they don't do that. So I asked to talk to a supervisor because I've been in so many departments. She told me that it could be up to 48 hours but I don't care if it takes longer to talk to a supervisor. When she put my name in the system, I got a call an hour later and talked to this nice supervisor about it and she said they would reimburse me the $220 I paid.
That girl I spoke to previously did not know what she was talking about. And then when I talked to the people that were supposed to come out to unclog the drain, they said they got five calls alone from American Home Shield for expedited service that day. They've been dealing with them for 20 years. So everything about that whole thing was really, really screwed up. And then this representative said they wouldn't charge me the $75. She wouldn't turn it in because they never came out. Then I go to the bank and looked at my statement and they took the $75 out anyway. While I'm not completely against American Home Shield, that one incident has made me unsure about them now. I was so desperate that I went as far as thinking about buying a Roto-Rooter if I couldn't get a hold of anybody. Other than that, I had an AC that wasn't working right and the AC guy that AHS sent out told me what I had to do to get to balance, and he did that fairly well.
Good afternoon Ralph,
I understand your concerns with the plumbing issue that has not fully been resolved and the cost of $220 that was paid. I would be glad to speak with you and address each issue until they are completed.

My AC wasn’t blowing out cold air. I submitted claim with AHS and ACS Absolute Comfort called me the next day. I have a lot of medical conditions and none of my family members live close to me, so I was stuck in a hot house for a whole day. Then the tech came and he was very nice. But he was stoned and he was done in 10 minutes. He claimed that the problem was the compressor and I don’t know how he thought that. He just stuck through the air conditioner and didn't tell me what was wrong, so I didn't say anything. Since then, sometimes, the unit would blow out cool. But it looks like I need the power and tell them to come back out again with another $75.
Being a senior citizen, I can hardly put in claims because AHS tells you to use a computer. I have that, but I can't use it. I have a problem with my sight and I can't see on the computer. Also, I live alone. So, I have to get my granddaughter to do it for me. AHS used to have a better system where people like myself could speak to one of their representatives and there was no problem by paying the $75. It'd be better if they have that instead of telling people to go online.

Our washer was making a rattle sound and it was making some noise. I went online and filed a claim to American Home Shield. The tech came out in a day or two and he fixed it. He was nice, professional and had all the parts. We didn’t need to wait for him to go get the parts. The repair was fast and very efficient. So, we were happy. The washer is okay for now. I would tell others, if they wanna have extra protection, “Do it.”

I called American Home Shield for my refrigerator issue. It was working but it was leaking a lot of water out of the bottom. The technician came out within a day, checked my refrigerator and saw right off that the reason why it was defrosting or leaking water was because of the seal. The gasket came off around the door. So he had adjusted the inside of my freezer and got me a new a gasket to put around the refrigerator door. It's been working and hasn't leaked water since. I called them out a year ago for the same thing and the tech just adjusted the seal that was on there instead of buying me another one. Nevertheless, I'd tell my friends that if they can't afford to buy another refrigerator or appliance, AHS is the best thing to go to. You just pay $75 for the labor and parts.

I called American Home Shield after coming home and seeing that my basement was underwater because my hot water tank rusted out. But I didn’t realize my AHS contract had lapsed, so they immediately put me in touch with service who reinstated it back to cover that extra month. So, I had somebody come out the next afternoon. They were great. The contractor AHS sent was very good and he explained the process and what my options were. He was very professional, nice and he cleaned everything up afterwards. I got everything taken care of for a lot less than I expected and it was a very good experience overall.
