With my most recent claim American Home Shield sent K & S Plumbing. I had asked them to come over and replace a toilet. But they didn’t replace the toilet because they said it would cost $375. They just did some other minor repairs to the kitchen sink. They also showed my wife how to deal with the water heater. My wife was satisfied but I wasn’t, just because I thought the toilet would be covered and that was the main purpose of them coming and they didn't do it.
Because it’s a service company, some reason they gave about it not being a normal wear and tear or something, that they wouldn’t replace it. I filed a claim for installation of a water line for the refrigerator and they sent K & S Plumbing and that wasn’t covered either so I ended up paying $125 directly to the plumbing company. I can’t seem to get the work done that I call AHS for, for the price that I thought I would have to pay, which is $75. I was able to get something done but just not the thing which I wanted done. I had to actually pay for those separately.

I had a heating element that went out in my dryer. When I filed a claim, the AHS reps who helped me were very good. The contractor they sent out was very professional and courteous too. Everything was efficient. And since then, everything works good.

I had a leak in my air conditioner and it was out of Freon. I called American Home Shield thereafter. Their contractor explained everything and told me exactly what was going on and what he had to do. Whenever I call AHS, they're very helpful and they get on the problem right away.

My stove wasn't working and the tech that American Home Shield sent said he had to order a new harness and he would get in touch with me when it's ready. I figured it would take a couple of weeks so I started calling after about three weeks. There was no answer and no return call. So I started calling American Home Shield. I spoke to a woman and I asked if the part was ordered. She said she doesn't know and that she's gonna try to call the tech but they couldn't reach him either. It has been over two months. But other than that, I haven't had any problem with AHS.

There was an issue with the air conditioner and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield. Their guy understood what I was talking about then he checked into it and said he'll take care of it. A couple of days later, a tech came and he was good as gold. He told me what he was doing and said that he might have to check it out but that he’d try one thing first to see if it would do it. So far, with everything that we've called with American Home Shield, everybody has been pretty much professional. We also had an issue with the water heater and some plumbing and the guy who came out took care of it.

I filed a claim for an electrical issue online and got a notification that said someone would get in contact with me shortly. The guy AHS sent was knowledgeable, so my experience was okay. I get text notifications when I book something, which is like an appointment reminder. Home Shield is a good idea and I like the concept. I got my entire house rekeyed after I moved in, so that was a nice treat.

When my AC went out, I called American Home Shield and the representative I dealt with was very informative. In fact, anytime I call American Home Shield, they do exactly what I ask of them. They get me scheduled and usually, someone calls me in a timely manner. For my AC, they sent a guy out but the transformer had to be replaced so an electrician had to come out. But the first guy had not written good notes so when the second guy came, he didn't have the right part. The repair did not get done and I had to wait another two days. But when the technician came back out, the issue was resolved within an hour and since then, the AC has been back to normal.

When we submitted a claim for the AC, the process worked very well and we were happy about it. The representative was professional and he knew what he was doing. The contractor did a really good job and the AC is working now since the repair. We have been with American Home Shield forever and I recommend them.

I had a wire that was chewed by a squirrel and I filed an AC claim to American Home Shield. I sent everything online and the process was really easy. Then, someone from Myers Comfort came out and he was fabulous and pleasant. He called before he came which I thought was wonderful. It was weird because I was in the middle of traffic and I couldn't get here on time, and he said he's got somewhere else he could go to and would be here in a minute. The job was done in about 15 minutes as it was an easy fix for a simple problem. After the repair, the AC is wonderful. I'm gonna get American Home Shield in charge of my other house too.

I submit claims with American Home Shield over the phone and sometimes I have to wait a long time. Their representatives are helpful, however, some contractors are not very competent. Sometimes, AHS sends some technicians that don’t know very well, so that’s a problem. I recently had an issue with my Trane AC and the first guy that came out didn’t know how to fix it, and I told him not to touch it and not make any mess. He told me himself that he doesn’t know Trane. AHS sent another guy and he fixed it. The air conditioner has been very good since the repair and the second contractor knew what he was doing. It took him 30 or 40 minutes and he put some Freon.
Overall American Home Shield needs to evaluate the contractor and they have to check how they’re rating. Sometimes, some contractors try to cheat me. They come over and check and say, “Oh, that’s not covered by the American Home Shield.” Even though it’s covered, they do that kind of trick, then they want to charge the customer more money.

We had leaky faucets so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Then a plumber from DNB Plumbing Home Services came out about two weeks ago. We had new inserts but the faucets were so corroded they had to be replaced. The faucets were also damaged from the tools that were used when they were being taken off. The plumber needed some more parts and he ordered the new faucets from the company. He then told me to contact him when the new faucets came in. So when they came in, we called and set up the appointment. I told them Friday and they were supposed to show up at 5:00 yesterday. At about 6:30, I tried to call but the office hours were over so I left a message for them. They had a five-hour window and I waited all day but I never heard from them so I'm really not interested in having them back in my house. I know they can't be more reliable.
Good morning Michael,
I understand your concerns with your most recent service request to have the plumbing leaks repaired. Per your review, I am aware that the contractor missed his appointment to complete the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issue resolved.

I had a stoppage in the kitchen sink and a leak in the downstairs half bath. They were simple claims with American Home Shield and Roto-Rooter got them done. They did the kitchen sink and it was just something loose for the commode that was leaking downstairs. However, for the third claim, I didn't know where exactly the leak was coming from or the terminology that I needed to use so I said "leak." But the leak was coming from the valve so I have to specifically say "valve." And so for that reason, the contractor couldn't touch my tub.
With American Home Shield, you have to be specific with the terminology and I'm assuming it's for liability. But to a homeowner, if I have a leak, I have a leak and I don't know how else to put it. But other than that, the experience was fine. The plumber said they'd be here between 8:00 and 12:00 and they were here around 9:30 so that was good. And they were only here maybe 30 minutes from start to finish so it was simple as far getting them here. I went online to submit the claim, the plumber called me, I returned the call and then we set up the appointment. And for the AC vent, my first claim to American Home Shield, I did the same thing.
I'm single and I've been in this house for 10 years so my house is now a bit older. And so having some type of a warranty helps because I have somebody to call. It's easy to request the service from American Home Shield. I go online, they ask me what the issue is, I request for the service and then they have somebody call me. So that takes out the hassle of having to search for somebody. I pay the $40 monthly fee but it's worth it if I use them three or four times a year. American Home Shield has done what they said they would do and they get whatever I need and it's done very quickly. I would definitely recommend them to anybody that has a home.

I filed a claim online for my air conditioner which was constantly running, and the site was very user-friendly. The technicians told me what they were looking for and what they were doing to pinpoint it. Although it took two visits, they took care of the AC. The two visits were about a week apart but only because there was a weekend and a holiday in there. It took me a couple of days to even call. Besides, it was no problem because it wasn't that hot out yet. There was also no charge for the second one. Everything was great and I'd tell others to sign up for American Home Shield.

The outside unit of the AC was going on and off. It would run for about 15 seconds, make a terrible noise and be off for 45 then come back on for 15. So I filed a claim on it online on a weekend. On Monday, I got the confirmation that American Home Shield got it and they said I would get a call from the AC people in 24 hours. I got the call on Tuesday and then the technician came out on Thursday.
He was a really nice guy but he couldn’t find anything wrong. I played the recording I made of it and it had a real gravelly awful sound but the unit wouldn’t reproduce the problem for him. So he couldn't tell what was wrong. It would come on eventually and stay on, which he checked to make sure it did. It was working fine. He asked how low I could do on my thermostat so I cranked it all the way down to about 60. I don’t ever cool my house to that level but it ran beautifully. The house got really cold.
He checked everything and they were all working. The Freon was completely tanked up. There were no leaks and the switches all worked. He also went up in the attic and looked at the unit up there. He didn't know why the unit was doing that. The guy was like, “I am so sorry, ma’am. You are doing the right thing figuring you get us out here to fix the problem before it became a catastrophic but there's nothing wrong.”
My initial thought was to tell the air conditioner people that I got a newbie who didn't know his job. But they told me that he was one of their more experienced technicians. He was one of their best and has got years of experience. But I guess he had never heard a machine do that before. When the air conditioner company called me to see if I was satisfied with the service, I told them that the reality was that no matter how experienced a technician you are, if you come across a situation you haven't ever encountered before, you really can't do anything about it.
The AC in my father-in-law's house had a problem and while the technician was fixing it, I told him about my AC. He knew what I was talking about when I described the problem. He had encountered it before and said that with the kind of system we had, it was probably gonna break down and have to be replaced. I thought I was being proactive jumping in there and trying to fix it immediately before I have to go any length of time with no air conditioning. But he said that based on what I described, the unit was gonna fail catastrophically but there was no telling when that can happen. It could happen tomorrow or in a couple more years.
He said if there's a pressure switch on the system, it could be that but he didn’t know for sure whether there are pressure switches on my particular system. I told him the technician had checked everything, including all the switches and the capacitors. My father-in-law's technician said that if that was the case, the air conditioner may very well be on its last legs and was starting to go. Sometimes machines are weird. We just have to wait and see what it's gonna do. But I'm perfectly fine with American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

My air conditioner quit cooling and it was a hundred degrees outside. It was terrible. American Home Shield sent someone out to look at it the next day after the initial response. A motor had to be ordered for the unit and this was on a Friday, so we had to wait the whole weekend and it was very miserable. My interaction with the contractor was excellent though. I was very happy that they were able to get to it as quickly as they did and I understand that the part had to be ordered. I’m also very happy that I kept American Home Shield. In fact, I had been recommending them to all my friends that are buying homes.

I've had a good experience with American Home Shield, but I've had a bad one too. Normally, I submit my claims online. But from now on, when my claim is for heating and air conditioning, I'll be calling the rep that I usually deal with there and have her place the service order so that I can have Altus Air Conditioning as my contractor and get the technician that they send out to do the repair. If I file the claim online, it would be the luck of the draw in getting assigned to a contractor and there's one guy that I don’t ever want to see again. Two weeks had walked on, but this guy would not get orders placed and Altus Air had to come out and fix what he did, and they got the work done by the time that we needed it to be done. The technician of Altus Air found parts that weren’t even put back into the air conditioner by the other guy. He got the AC fixed within 30 minutes and it has been working fine since the repair.

I had an issue with my plumbing. Our toilet was leaking. AHS had it checked and it wasn’t really leaking. It was just the flapper wasn't going down. They were able to address the issue in two days. It was done quickly and then we called them again another time for our well pump. That wasn't that quick but it wasn't really on their behalf. It was mostly on their contractors that they assigned me. They have been working with AHS for just a short period and they didn't want to go through AHS. They wanted me to pay out of pocket instead of getting AHS to pay them for some reason. And then I called AHS and they were like, "What?" Then they sent me somebody else and that person came the same day. They split their work and it was so quick.

Our on-demand hot water heater wasn’t heating up anything. I went online and filed a claim to American Home Shield, and it took about 24 hours for the contractor to come out. The online process was very easy but I didn’t have anywhere in the website to tell them that it was an on-demand hot water heater instead of a tank one. The contractor just assumed it was a tank and they weren’t prepared when they came out, so they had to make another appointment, which was a pain, and I had to wait over the weekend. The guy who came out couldn’t help me because he wasn’t trained in those. So, he had to call a guy that was but he wasn’t available till that Monday and he did very good. He was able to troubleshoot and put in a temporary piece, a part that went out. He came back and followed up, and ordered the right one. And then, he came back and took good care of it. So, I was really impressed with that.

My experience with American Home Shield has been great in the last six years. My real estate agent got the home warranty when we bought the house and AHS was the one that was offered in the contract. And recently, I made a claim for the exhaust fan of the stove and the process of submitting it online went smooth. A guy came out and ordered the part but when the order came in, it was the wrong part. The people got ahold of me and apologized. A few days later, they got the right part in, and everything was taken care of.
Also, I only have one issue with the pump for the pool as it was screaming so loud that all of the neighborhood can hear it. I called it in to AHS and people came out. The technicians looked at it and said that the pump is still pumping and there was nothing wrong with the pump. I said that the electric motor is starting to go out and the barring is screaming. The technicians told me that if the pump is still pumping, there is nothing they can do. Then, they left. I got ahold of American Home Shield again and they sent out another party. A young man came and said that the barring is going out. He changed the barring out and everything went real smooth after that.
Today, I called AHS to cancel our contract since we are moving in three days. The first guy I spoke to was so conned and I couldn’t understand him. He was way out there and then he ended up disconnecting me. So, I called back and I got another person who could hardly speak English and they kept asking what my claim was when I told them I have to cancel my contract. It got frustrating having to deal with people that can’t speak English and I despise that. The last rep put me on something and said, “Your wait will be longer than two minutes so we will get back with you” and there was a click. So, I still don’t know if my contract has been canceled. We’re selling the house over Monday and I am recommending AHS to the people that are buying our house.

When the first tech came out for my air conditioning, he had a pickup truck and was wearing shorts. He had no identification and no tools to speak of. I thought it was odd and I wasn’t comfortable with him. I even called American Home Shield on it and I told them that something was wrong but they said they check out their people. But this guy was telling me that he has worked for this contracting company for two or three months so that told me that American Home Shield did not check this guy or the the company out.
When the guy from the second company came out, he was basically the same way. The guy started out the conversation with me by saying that he really didn’t feel like doing the job that day. He fiddled around and asked if it was a second opinion. When I said yes, he asked me what the first opinion was and I told him. I even went so far as to show him the paperwork. I was so stupid. About 15 minutes later, he came back to me and said that his opinion was the same as the first one. Then the paper he gave me was like one of those little receipt pads that you get from Staples. It was like a little invoice and he had no name on the paper.
I asked him what we were gonna do and he started talking about us needing a maintenance program. So he was trying to sell me that then he said he would be back. A week passed and he never called in the second opinion. I had to call three or four times. American Home Shield also tried to contact him and they couldn’t contact him either. I told American Home Shield that the guy probably didn’t turn the stuff in. Then finally last week, we got a hold of him and they came up with some price but only for one unit, not both units. They said they would have something in for American Home Shield that evening but they never did. So I went back to the first people and they’re gonna come out this Monday.
We’ve been with American Home Shield for a little while and I’m fine with them but I’m not happy with their vendors. I honestly believe they are junk. These people have friends who either wanna get into business or are into business and they’re passing off the job to somebody else. The technicians have no ID and they come up in their personal vehicles. They’re really not professional. I’ve called American Home Shield but the never do anything about it.

My first experience with American Home Shield I called them up and folks were dispatched and it went pretty good. But the second claim, for the repair of an outdoor hose bib which is all within the contract, it was really sad. AHS had some very uninformed agents. I explained it to them about five different times after they had sent a note denying it. And the hose bib can only be denied if there's some kind of an alleged freeze. In Texas right now, it's not freezing so I tried to explain it to them and after 30 days of phone calls, they said, "Well now, it's gone beyond the time."
Some of the folks who called me back definitely struggled with the English language. Maybe English is their second language. It was difficult trying to get them to understand the claim and I really don’t know how they outsource these folks but as I understand, their headquarters is in Memphis, It was just very strange to me that I didn’t have fairly articulate claims folks who go, "Oh, I see that." "Yeah, that's fine." "Okay, let's revisit that." "Let me call you back."
And so they would say, "We're gonna have authorization call you back." Two times they did that. Then the two times I called back, they said, "Authorization doesn’t call people back." The reason I bought AHS was it's rated as the top home warranty outfit. And this is just a hose bib. And then I had another claim on my heating and air conditioning. I really had to work the claim and remind them what's in their own contract on things that need to be repaired. They got disinformation.
They tried to deny the claim again based upon saying, "In an air conditioning unit, there's a drip pan from the condensed state so your air conditioning is up there running and it throws off water and the pan had rusted through or something. It needed to be repaired." The guy that was out here said, "Yeah, it's good to go. I'll just take it back and we’ll get you a new one." So AHS calls back and says, "I'm sorry. Your claim's denied. We don’t repair the emergency drain pan." It wasn’t the emergency drain pan. It was the main pan which they do repair so I called back the HVAC company.
They had to call AHS back and AHS said, "Oh, yup, we got it wrong." I've only been with them since February but working the claim shouldn't be this tough. I'm sure that there are people who do fraudulent things and they have to watch that and that's fine. I'm more dissatisfied than satisfied and that makes me sad because I bought the top plan, Triple Combo Plan. So that's like everything a residential home person could buy. It's almost $800 a year which is about twice what you would pay for say, a home warranty if you were selling your home. It's kinda like I went shopping at Macy's and I'm worried that I bought something from the Dollar Tree. I've got no resolution on the hose bib. For all I know now, I could call back and they can say, "Sorry, it's been denied." I'm fighting that claim. I finally got the HVAC claim resolved because I had to correct their misinformation. That's what's frustrating to me with it. And I pay like clockwork.
With the HVAC claim I actually called a local outfit because in addition to the fan going out and my 88-year old mother was here, very hot, I had no HVAC and it was almost 90 in the house. And an AHS representative would not expedite the claim to get somebody out here. So I just called somebody else. I ended up paying $170 to get a capacitor of the fan that needed to be repaired then fired back up.
I came from the construction trade so I have some knowledge that helps me say now, "Wait a minute. You guys have the wrong pan." I'm sure that average everyday person that doesn’t work outside the home or even another person who is out in the workplace all day and is like, "I don't know. I don’t know anything about this stuff." So forcing folks to work the claim beyond what appears to be uninformed agents is just kind of this classic insurance thing where, "Yeah, we're gonna try and keep as much of the premium as we can," while they're clicking out 40% profits all year long. But I did get the HVAC and the house bib repaired. So know your contract and be ready to work your claim hard.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I recently had an electrical issue with my garage door and American Home Shield sent somebody out under the warranty and it didn't work. It stopped working so I called somebody else. The person that they sent said that they didn't install an extra rail across the new door so that was why it stopped working. But I haven't had a problem with a technician yet, just with what they don't cover. I've been in my house and with American Home Shield for 16 years and whenever I submit a claim it's just always, "Well, this is not covered." They'll send someone, you'll pay your service call but more than likely it's something that they don't cover. I've only had one situation where they actually covered it and that had to do with the air conditioning call. I feel as though if I'm paying them $500 extra a year they're gonna pay for whatever needs to be done and then they don't.

We live in south Texas near San Antonio where it is hot in the summer. Our home central HVAC system stopped working April 1, 2018. We immediately contacted American Home Shield because we have had a home warranty with that company for several years. American Home Shield sent a technician to our home during the week of April 2-6. He evaluated the system and said we could use our American Home Shield home warranty to repair the system by replacing only parts that were broken or we could pay ourselves to replace the complete system without help from American Home Shield.
We decided to use our American Home Shield home warranty, being told the system would fine once it was repaired. This would cost us much less than paying to replace the entire system ourselves. However, we had no choice of which HVAC company we could use for the repairs. We were required by American Home Shield to use Quantum Mechanical of San Antonio.
In the 10 weeks that followed, American Home Shield sent technicians to our home more than 20 times. The technicians from Quantum Mechanical did not wear uniforms or name tags. They always came to our home in unmarked vehicles without the company's name or state license number displayed anywhere. The owner of the company seldom answered our calls and came to our home only once during the 10 weeks when his technicians made at least 20 service calls to our home.
Throughout these 10 weeks, we repeatedly called service representative at American Home Shield. Often we would only get a recorded message and leave a voicemail asking for help. The response was slow and often took more calls from us. The results were always the same. After more days of summer heat, the guys from Quantum Mechanical would return.
In those 20+ service calls, technicians from Quantum Mechanical fixed leaking refrigerant lines in several places, replaced the compressor and fan in the outside unit, and replaced the air handler and drain pan in the attic. American Home Shield would not authorize replacement of the entire system, just repair of what was broken. Numerous times the technicians from Quantum Mechanical would get the unit to cool for a few hours or days and then stop working. The technicians would return a few days later to deal with new issues.
On one occasion, the technicians said the problem was in our home breaker box/electrical panel. The 2 50-amp breakers that controlled the current to the AC were ruined, probably from all the strain put on them by the various repairs and modifications done to it. So we paid an electrician to replace those breakers. Twice during these 10 weeks the system malfunctioned and water poured through the ceiling in the upstairs hall. The damaged Sheetrock is quite visible but the technicians said it was not their fault. The service representative at American Home Shield did not seem to care.
Last week, on Monday, June 11, the technicians returned and got the system to cool again. It did for a few days but stopped on Thursday June 14. We called immediately but had to wait 4 days for help to arrive. Call to service representative at American Home Shield just went to voicemail. After several more phone calls, the technicians returned today, Monday, June 18, and replaced the damper board in the air handler in the attic and replaced the thermostat in the downstairs living area. Yet, the system still would not cool.
They then discovered that the system was empty of refrigerant/Freon because of a new broken line in the outside unit. They said the break was one they could not repair. They would need to get approval from American Home Shield if possible, to order a new part to replace what was broken. After 10 weeks of putting up with the incompetence of Quantum Mechanical and the inability and unwillingness of American Home Shield to help us, I told the technicians to get their tools, leave immediately, and not return. We still have no AC after 10 weeks thanks to American Home Shield. I want every home owner to know how American Home Shield treats its customers. By the way, my wife and I are both licensed Realtors.

I called the company in December 2017 to change the payment draft date until the 25th of each month. I was assured that it was taken care of. They've overdrawn my account 3 times in the past 6 months. After the second time, I took my payment information off file and paid online. When my contract came up for renewal, a retention specialist guaranteed me it would not draft before the 25th of the month. It drafted on 4/27/18 and then again on 5/20/18. Because it drafted early and overdrafted my bank account I felt I could no longer trust the company to do what they agreed to. I cancelled service and asked for a refund. For 3 weeks they told me they were processing a refund, but on 6/12/18 they told me there would be no refund because of a contract termination fee. I shouldn't have to pay a termination fee when I cancelled due to repeated errors on their part.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY‼️! They don’t return calls and tell you whatever they can to get you off the phone. After weeks of doing what they tell you and after 7 different agents talking to the service tech, they say they aren’t covering anything (spa and hot water heater)! Huge ripoff... BEWARE‼️! And they won’t give me any of my correspondence with them to take to my attorney! I give them negative stars.

I called for service on my central A/C. I immediately got a vendor and contact number. However, that contractor did not call me within 24 hours. After I called the A/C contractor 3 times, they sent me a text message saying they don't cover my area. After long holds on the phone back to American Home Shield, I finally was told that there are no service reps in my area. The last time I called on my pool pump, I got the same answer. AHS reps didn't get the point that they were not satisfying my needs. I spent 2 hours (2 separate calls) on hold with their cancellation department trying to cancel my policy. Finally I complained on a 3rd call and they said someone will call me within 24 hours. There is no place on their website to cancel a policy. There is no place on their website to place a complaint. They are a ripoff.

Have been an American Home Shield customer for years and have had generally decent service until the most recent service call request. Gas water heater began leaking 6/15/18 in the later afternoon. Immediately notified AHS for service call. AHS quickly had a plumber contact us, only for the plumber to advise that he didn't work on our type of gas heater. Notified AHS immediately, as water didn't stop leaking just because the plumber assigned didn't know how to work on the appliance.
AHS then notified another vendor with which we were familiar, but didn't expect to hear from them until the next day. Come 6/15/18 (Sat) 5:45 am the next morning, the garage was flooding and the water was pouring heavily from the water heater. Notified the vendor around 6:34 am CDST to leave an emergency voicemail message that we had an emergency situation and required immediate assistance. Meanwhile, had to turn the water off at the street to stem the flow of water, so no water for the entire house or animals. Had to use neighbor's hose for water. 90+ degree heat. No bathing, no drinking water, no nothing.
Last time I checked, notice to the agent (vendor) is notice to the principle (AHS). No call all day from the vendor. Left another voicemail message same day in the late afternoon that we were without water and needed help. Called AHS and explained our situation to an agent only for the line to be disconnected. I immediately called AHS back, only to receive a recorded message that AHS was closed.
Called AHS the following morning and spoke with an agent, once again explaining our situation. They said that the vendor had to contact us within 24 BUSINESS hours, which did not include weekends, despite my insistence that this was an emergency service request. I escalated to a supervisor, who said that when the service call request was placed on Friday, it was not flagged as an emergency, even though I notified the vendor and AHS that it was in fact an emergency the day prior. I requested outside authorization to utilize a contractor of my choice since the one they assigned never contacted me. I agreed to wait 4 hours (from the time of the call, not BUSINESS hours) to hear from a service vendor now that the claim was flagged as an emergency. I advised that if I did not hear from the vendor that I would seek outside authorization to use a contractor of my choice.
4 hours plus came and went without receiving a call as promised, so I called AHS at 3:35 pm CDST, only to be told by the agent (Bethanne) that her computer was down. I immediately called back and received the same message from a second agent. I called back a third time, and my call was disconnected. Monday, 6/18/18 still no water.
Called AHS 7 am CDST today (when they open). Had agent Bobbie transfer me to Vonn in their escalations department (service support specialists team). She told me that a vendor (#3 now) had been assigned and would be out to our house today. If AHS could reach someone at vendor # 3, why could they not have called me as promised. I again requested outside authorization to engage my own contractor, which she refused and was more argumentative than her colleague yesterday. I left a voicemail message with her supervisor, Kamria ** in the Memphis office, requesting outside authorization. I have yet to hear from Ms. **, but I can predict that I will hear nothing new. Most of our issues requiring AHS service calls have not been of the emergency variety, but when it came time to step up in a real emergency, AHS fell flat on its face. Needless to say, I am terminating my relationship with them today.

Call made to fix A/C. 5 days later “Scott” from Fire and Ice Heating & Air showed up, diagnosed problem and left saying he needed a part to fix the problem. That was June 6th. We have never heard back from him. Several days later we contacted American Home Shield, telling the agent we had still not been helped and that Scott did not return calls. We were told the company had to order the part and it would take 3 to 5 days. Well, 10 days later, June 16th, agent Chastity stated we had to allow 3 to 5 days, right from her scripted note card, and the service man would arrive on Monday, June the 18th.
In AHS’s notes from our call to them on June 8th they have information that we were leaving town early on the 18th and would be away for 1-1/2 months. Chastity said, "Sorry that’s when they’ll be there" and was very insolent and condescending. My last call was to the service man to tell him I wanted my part back so I can get someone to fix the air conditioner. Bad experience!

There was an issue with my air-conditioning system and I filed a claim with American Home Shield. The contractors that they sent were polite, on time and did a great job. I’m very satisfied with AHS. In fact, I’m talking to all my friends who are buying a house or own a house to have American Home Shield. The only problem I’m having right now is whenever there is a deductible, AHS always takes twice. They double charged me in May for the air conditioner, then they double charged me in June for the refrigerator. So my Bank of America account is now negative $235. I went to Bank of America, but they told me that it’s not their problem and that I have to call American Home Shield. When I called AHS, they were courteous and helpful. The last time I talked to them on June 15th, they told me that they will put my money back into my account but they never credited me.

The representative from American Home Shield whom I spoke to over the phone to submit the claim was very helpful. She told me how the process was gonna go with the scheduling. Once Greenway received the order, someone would give me a call back. I got a call the same day and they scheduled it around my work schedule. The contractor explained very thoroughly and was very helpful. He had to order the part and he would call me once he got the part back in and schedule when to come back out and they scheduled it again on my work schedule. They gave me a window and they called me when they came to my house. I was able to go to work and then I was able to leave work. Greenway came out to replace the timer of the dryer. And I'm not having any more issues with the dryer since the repair. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The electric, the garbage disposal, and the air conditioner were corrupted all in one week. And American Home Shield was very good at either replacing or fixing everything that needs to be done. The garbage disposal exploded as the water shot out of the middle of it when I flipped it on. So, I made a claim online to American Home Shield and told them to bring a new garbage disposal as it cannot be fixed and we needed a new one.
When the plumber person called me, I told them what the problem was and told them what we needed too. The plumber asked me to check and see what size we have to make sure they have that size in their truck. Everything has been great with the contractors and our interaction went well. They came out and did their job. Then, when my air conditioner quit working, I've had the air conditioning guy come. There was a reset button on the rear air conditioning outside so all he had to do was push the button. A couple of them were silly things that I wished I just did it.
It was extremely difficult to get through on the phone line of American Home Shield though. A part of it might have been the timing when something happened in Florida. There was a high volume of calls and I had to sit on the phone for two hours waiting. So, once I figured out how to file the claim online, I've always done it that way now because it's easier. Also, when I had to have a refrigerator replaced, their process was slow. They didn’t encourage me like, "We're gonna replace it and these are the choices." So, it took so much time trying to figure the process out and it was a little confusing to me. But other than that, everything has been timely and easy to understand if I had to have any problems. I definitely wouldn't buy a house without American Home Shield because I don't know what I’ll be expecting or getting in the new house.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. I called and talked to a representative to file a claim for my hot water heater that had a control element which stopped working. I immediately got which company was coming out as well as everything that there was to know about that company and the individual who would be coming out. That was the best experience I've ever had. Also, two technicians came to the house and they were done in about an hour and a half. They explained everything to me and it's been running great ever since. The only thing with American Home Shield was the price that they have to continue after I purchased my home. I put the upfront money on it, but to continue with it was a little expensive to keep coming up with that huge amount first off right off the bat. Still, I'm very satisfied with them.

My microwave went out and was making a humming noise. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and it was pretty streamlined and straightforward. They’ve been having problems with the GE monogram series and the magnetron tube for some while. They’ve already been out to replace it three times before. And the third time is a charm and they said they would replace the unit. They gave me the option to replace it with a JennAir and a cash option. The system we have is a GE monogram series and they're only providing $1,600 to replace it. The new one is $1,000 more and we've been searching and trying to find a better deal. I'd definitely recommend the service and it's worth the money.

We just bought the house and everything inside was original. We've had a couple of claims with American Home Shield and someone is always there to answer when I've used it. It's easy to do it online and they always verify your information when you call in. Then, they assign a contractor immediately and some of them you have to call but most of the time, they call you. We've had Crown Services and they've been really great and easy to work with. Also, they were very knowledgeable, professional, and really straightforward, and they seemed to know what they're doing, which is important because they're coming into your home. But they have a company they work with called Allstate Plumbing. I only see bad reviews about them and a lot of their bad comments come from Allstate. It reflects on them and that shouldn't be the case because AHS is a good company.
The first time we used it I wasn’t sure how it works, so I provided my own faucet. The tech was nice enough to just install the one we had there and did it that day. Sometimes you can have the company pay for it, but I wanted one that has like motion sensor and stuff so he politely installed the one we had there. I love AHS because it would have been expensive. Plumbers are like $150 each time they come to your house, so for it to just be $75 for the visit is a way better fee than having to pay the hourly rate and then if they can fix it or not is what's based on the part. AHS has been good since it was included in the house. So we're probably gonna renew again when it comes up.

When I had problems with the air conditioner, the contractor that AHS sent out looked at it. I have dual air conditioners here. So I wanted him to check both while he was here. So he checked a few things on it on his own and he said that it was good. However, the following week, the air conditioner he looked at, went out. I called AHS and explained that to them. But they said that I had to pay another service charge for it since it was not the one they had worked on. Then I said that nobody in their office told me that I had to pay for another service call for anything and if they were checking the air conditioner, they should check both of them. Then I asked to talk to their supervisor, and they said that would get him. They came back on the line and said that they would take care of it. So they waived the fee for that.
It took about a week for them to repair the unit. We had temperatures of 100 degrees, but luckily I bought a portable unit that I was able to use until they got the circuit board. So other than having to wait on the part, their service is good. And I would recommend them. I have the top of the line policy with AHS where I have to pay $100 each time I have somebody out. But if you’re trying to save, why wait for something to go out? That’s gonna cost more money on repair costs than to schedule them to come out and check the electrical. Other than that, I haven’t had any problems with American Home Shield. The people they’ve sent out are reputable and they’ve done a fantastic job. They solved my problem and I didn’t get any false information from them. They’ve lived up to what they’ve said.

They sent a technician in a timely manner for the AC, which was continuously running or operating. That technician was cordial and I was able to accompany him as he did the work, so it was good. He determined that the Freon was low and so he added it in. He explained that the contract only pays for the service call and not for the Freon. He then completed the work and the air conditioner has been working well ever since. He also advised me and it's a 60 or 90-day warranty on that repair. I've got a reminder date set on my calendar to double check to see how the air conditioner is performing before the warranty is out. So far, it's been good with AHS. We've had a garage door issue about six months ago and then we had the swimming pool pump heater issue and they fixed that. It’s all working pretty well. You should consider American Home Shield. They're worth the value.

My experience with American Home Shield was not a good one when I filed a claim for plumbing. I called them over the phone because at that time, I didn’t have my contract number to do it online. They said that they sent me the contract papers but it had been returned back to them. When I was looking at the address that they have for it to be returned or sent to me, they had my incorrect address. So I called the other day to give them the correct address. The contractor ended up calling my phone to ask me what my address was and he told me that he was at a different house number.
KNS Plumbing came out but before we called them and got the insurance back, we called Roro-Rooter. The problem was under the bathtub in the hall bathroom and Roro was saying that it was under plumbing. According to the guy from KNS, from his experience, he said he didn’t see anything wrong but I knew what was wrong and we were telling him what Roto-Rooter said. But he said he can’t go about what anyone said. He said as long as he doesn’t see anything right now, it’s nothing that he could fix. So then we also told him that the guy said to look behind the refrigerator in the kitchen and you can see where the pipe is running from and you could see the water there. He didn’t look behind the refrigerator. He ran the water in the bathtub and said it was running down pretty fine. I had him look outside to see if there was anything stopped up outside and he said nothing was.
I was telling him that when my son takes a sit-down bath in the tub, it stops up everything and water will run from the hall bathroom to the master bedroom into the laundry room which could be where how the pipe is connected. He still didn’t see anything wrong and I’m still having this problem. He also told me to run the bathwater but I told him that it’s not gonna show up like that. So, he ran the water and it didn’t show up. But if you're constantly, in that shower or in that bathroom, running water day by day, or if you’re washing clothes at the same time or something like that, it stops up. The other night, I had to put a towel down, coming out of my bedroom into my bathroom because it ran up there. My son took a shower around about 2:30 in the morning. And when I got up to use the bathroom, I noticed the carpet was wet.
He told me to take a picture the next time it happens and to send it to him. I don't have to do that when all he has to do is just pull the refrigerator out of the way and look behind the wall, wherever the cover hold is in that pipe right there, to look and see what’s going on in there. So to keep paying $100 for someone to tell me that they don’t see the problem and they’re not gonna pull the refrigerator out to find out the problem where the water is coming from, I don’t need that.
I called AHS and when I talked to the rep, she said that it will stay good for six months. And I told her that the service did not do me any good at all. I told both the guy and the girl from AHS what the problem was and it was my word against theirs. I had a real bad experience with him and he ended up leaving and nothing was done. Also, when the guy came over, he wasn’t in uniform and had on a real raggedy t-shirt and a pair of cut-off shorts. There was nothing that said who his company was or who he worked for. Then he was in a truck that had no name on the truck.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Since we bought our home in December of 2017, we have been covered with American Home Shield. Submitting a claim with them is no problem. I do it online and as soon as it’s assigned, I call the contractor. We had a problem with the seals on the toilets and there was a leak from the dishwasher line. AHS sent good contractors who were also kind. They came in, did the job and were clean and left.
However, we had a terrible time with AHS when the sewer line broke in the basement. It was on a Saturday and when I called to report it to get somebody out here. It was a health emergency because raw sewage was spilling in the basement into our family room, Then one lady told me that they would expedite it, but she didn’t know if we would be able to get anybody out until Monday. Then I called back three hours later and asked if they were getting someone out or if I would have to pay for this on my own and send someone else. And this person told me that the first one lied to me and that they never have anybody available on a Saturday and Sunday since they won’t pay the overtime to those plumbers.
We had to go through my own insurance company and part of my own expense until the AHS contractor could get out here. It took them until Wednesday of that week to get someone out here to fix that. It was horrendous. I was ready to call the local TV station. My own insurance company had to pay for new carpeting, new flooring, and everything in my family room because AHS did not step up and do what they needed to do on a weekend because they would not pay overtime. I was very unhappy with them and I would not recommend them to anyone.

He was saying that my line got chewed up by a dog or something of that nature. I don’t have any pets. We don’t even have pets in the neighborhood where I live but he looked at everything and he said, “Oh yeah, we'll come out and fix it. There's something going on with your compressor. We'll come out and fix it Monday.” And then I was waiting on a phone call to confirm the time and I didn’t get one so I called AHS. And after from listening to their notes to what he said, there was just nothing corresponding to what he said to me. And they said that what they were gonna do was send somebody else out to get a second opinion.
The second guy was a little more experienced and he kind of gave it a real good breakdown but calling them back it just didn’t seem like they had a formal solution or even try to hold me as a customer as far as resolving what I had going on. I just got a long runaround of why they didn’t do this and do that and so forth. And I just really wasn’t happy with it. So I went and got me a whole new unit out my pocket because it just seems like that runaround I got in was not gonna come to a point of AHS helping me. It just made me look further that if there's anything else I have going on, they probably will just do the same thing. I really wasn’t happy.

I've had good and bad experiences with American Home Shield. I've had some issues where I had to continue over and over to tell them what was needed. They've also told me that it wasn’t and that's happened at least three to four times. In addition, I've had some of their contractors try to charge me off of the American Home Shield when it was a covered issue. Also, I had one contractor that didn’t wanna do the work because AHS wasn’t paying him enough when he called. Another contractor wanted to charge me $300 to do something, so I told AHS to send me out somebody else. The person that they sent after the first one said that he would charge $200, but he'd see first if he could get it to work and I don’t have to pay anything. He got the appliance to work and I didn’t have to pay anything extra.
Additionally, when calling AHS, it takes forever for somebody to pick up. I'll be on hold for an hour and a half or 30 minutes, at least. They're trying to get people to use the internet because I used the internet the past week and it was much easier to make an appointment, but I like talking to somebody. Also, the quality of the work done by the contractors is good sometimes and sometimes, it isn't. I have to ask for the best person that they have and I got tired of them sending people who didn’t know how to handle some of the things that I needed.
I have two expensive shower units and they sent people out who one time, the guy said it was fixed and it wasn’t. I was so busy, I waited too late and I lost the money from having it done because I had to call within a certain amount of time in order for them to send someone else out which would still be under the contract. It took me about four people before they gave me somebody good enough who could work on my shower unit. It shouldn’t take me four different people in order for something to be fixed. I’m not happy with people telling me my claim is not covered, so I have to pay a certain amount of money. In the past, I really thought that AHS was good and I had recommended them, but I don’t recommend them anymore. I am thinking about going with another service.

It takes an hour to connect with somebody. They put you on hold forever. It seems like it’s their intent to not to talk to a person which makes it very problematic. Not in that claim in particular but other claims, when I had trouble and need to talk to somebody. It’s very difficult to the point that I almost consider not going with them. And working in an insurance and claims my entire life, that’s not how a customer should be treated.
Their dealing with the air-conditioning was awful. It was a hundred degrees out. When they assigned somebody, they couldn’t get out here for a week. And then when I tried to call, I got somebody to reassign the claims. They found somebody that could definitely be out there within 24 hours but that person wasn’t out for a week either. Also, the number they provided for the vendor wasn’t the right one. They were also trying to get people out of Oklahoma City when we live in Tulsa, which was another problem. I asked for a callback from a supervisor and nobody ever call me back. Do your research.

The email communication with American Home Shield was easier when I submitted my claim online. Our AC unit wasn't cooling and the outside unit wasn't working. Soon after, the AC people called and told me they'd be coming the day after. And the technician they sent out was great. He was very knowledgeable and courteous. He also got the job done and made it work. But when I go online and try to see what the total and how many more payments I'm gonna have, I can't see it. I know what the total is, but I'm on automatic payment and I have three more payments to finish up. But you can't see it anywhere online when I go to my account.

We had an air conditioning issue where the outside unit started freezing up. My renter called me and let me know what the problem was. I submitted the claim online through my phone and I got quick service. I did the same thing online when I closed it out. So I placed the request for service and that afternoon I've already received a text that the work order was already transmitted. The next day, the service tech was already contacting me setting up the appointment. And then a day later after he fixed the problem, everything was resolved.
In the past, American Home Shield used to have it set up where they could either pay the contractor or not. There was always the confusion, "Did I pay or not?" But that's a lot easier now and I'm glad that American Home Shield reversed the situation. I pay American Home Shield and there's no question of whether or not they handled paying the contractors. Furthermore, they don't pay the technician any more than I pay them directly for all the services. I've recommended American Home Shield to other people.

American Home Shield is a great company and I don’t think anybody should have a home without it.

We had a problem with a water valve for one of our toilets and we weren’t able to resolve the issue ourselves. I called American Home Shield and they sent a plumber over. The contractor called within 24 hours and since it wasn’t an emergency, they came two days later. The plumber was able to resolve the issue very quickly. It was something very simple and there was no follow up required. I paid for the service online, so there was no financial transaction between the vendor and myself.
I had American Home Shield at my previous home as well. Generally, they're very good and it takes two to three days to send someone out. Their technicians were very good. However, sometimes they try to take the easy way out as opposed to just replacing a part. They try to fix things before they replace the part and the ordering time is sometimes longer than I would expect it to be. Because they have to call in and have American Home Shield order the part. They can’t just do it themselves. I would definitely recommend AHS to others depending on the age of their house.

I had a problem with my air conditioner and American Home Shield sent me someone I hadn't had before and they were better than the company they sent me before that. The man was exceptionally nice and everything went according to plan. He went out of his way to take care of it. Even if I didn't have American Home Shield, I would call them again because I've never had a guy come and be as thorough as this guy was. A lot of times, when you have American Home Shield, they're not very thorough. They just go in, they look at it a bum's rush then they leave. And then you always need to have to call them back. But this guy was Johnny-on-the-spot. I file my claim on the phone and American Home Shield sends someone in two days. American Home Shield is top of the line and I would recommend them.

I had an issue with my air conditioning unit. I submitted a claim by phone with American Home Shield which was easier than doing it online. The first person that I spoke with was very nice and helpful. When they called back to tell me what was gonna be approved, the representative was talking really fast and was kind of impersonable. I also talked to a gentleman one night and he was very short. He was not rude but I got the feeling that he didn't really wanna be at work.
Then, American Home Shield sent someone out who gave me a quote, but I wasn't pleased with them. The amount that the company was trying to charge for Freon was ridiculous. I also wanted to know if I could use a different product and if there was another stuff that was cheaper, because they wanted to put an R22 for the Freon and I knew that was going away. They told me to go to American Home Shield to get it approved but American Home Shield said they didn't care and that I had to go back to the company. I went back to the company and they said I couldn't do it.
It was extremely hot and very frustrating at the time and I had to upgrade. So, I chose to not keep going back and forth, so I got a new unit put in and it is much better than the one I had before. I ended up asking AHS to give me a cash out option and they are supposed to be sending me the check for whatever amount they decided on. I was satisfied that they gave me a cash out but I was dissatisfied that they didn't cover the whole amount and kept sending me back and forth.
Good morning Ms. Woody,

We've been with American Home Shield less than a year. We had a warranty prior and it came with the house that we bought six years ago, and because we had heavy use for one year they decided not to renew us. So we went shopping and AHS was very reasonable and same coverage, if not, a little bit more. They also gave us much better rate. It dropped 40%. We were paying over a $100 a month for the other product and AHS went down quite a bit. So we were happy with the policy.
When we had two recalls on the same problem with our appliance, it was a pain in the butt until we found the right service person that knew what the problem was. We're in a small town, separated from a lot of services. So for AHS to search for a service help isn't something I'm gonna hold against them. They worked hard with us to get this problem fixed. The AHS representatives were professional and helpful. They don't leave any questions unanswered or me hanging out. We came from a very large metropolitan area so I know what to expect with service and I would recommend AHS to others.

My fridge wasn't cooling so I went to the American Home Shield website and submitted a claim. Astro Appliance came out and tried to replace the relay on the compressor. I thought maybe it wasn’t cycling off and that was why it was overheating. It wasn't obvious right away whether that worked or not so we had to wait. But it didn't so they came back out. They added some Freon to see if that was the problem but they overcharged the system with it and the whole system froze up. They came back out and released some of the pressure, and the unit started cooling but just back to where it was before. So we were back to square one.
The fan that cools the compressor was working. The relay was working and it had enough Freon. So the most recent conclusion was that the actual compressor is not cooling satisfactorily. A compressor has been ordered and they’re waiting for that to come in so they can come and replace it. Although we haven’t gotten the solution yet, Astro Appliance has been very diligent in trying to solve the problem and American Home Shield has been really reactive to my issues as well.

The person that I spoke the day that appointment was missed told me that he couldn’t reset up an appointment until he found out if the appointment was fulfilled. He saw on the paperwork that I was a no-show, so he delayed it being fixed by a week because he wouldn’t reissue the work order. I was not pleased with that and then a few days later when I spoke to a woman, she said that was a ridiculous reason and that he should’ve reissued the order and the representative reissued it.

I'm a realtor and I usually submit claims with American Home Shield on behalf of my homeowners. The most recent claim I filed was for electrical and HVAC. I've started submitting the claims online more. It's a lot easier and I prefer doing it that way. Their website works really well. Then, we usually are dispatched to a particular vendor out in Montgomery and that has been a bit tricky and hasn't been the greatest. It was Myers and it's hit or miss. A lot of times it's frustrating, more so with the plumbing aspect than anything. However, the one we had this time, it was my first time working with him and it went a lot better. He was from Trinity Heating and Air, which I was recommended to ask for, and he was very nice, very knowledgeable and very helpful. It was a good experience and I was very pleased, even with the customer service.
However, I wasn't very impressed with their office. A lot of times they give you a four-hour window which is difficult, especially for me if I'm not the homeowner. But even for a homeowner that has a job to be with a 30-minute will-call-ahead kind of thing, that can be difficult. They called me and I missed their call. They didn’t utilize text whereas some of the other ones do and I usually put that on my online order to text. I don’t think that came through or something happened. So, we missed each other. They just seemed a little bit more old-fashioned and I really needed to text them on the phone.
Also, from the standpoint of a realtor who makes a lot of these calls, I noticed that I do have to be very sure, even if I go through the phone version, that I tell them exactly when they get there what to do just to make sure that everything on the list gets accomplished because sometimes it's not always translated. I reiterate that when they come.
I usually recommend AHS for the peace of mind, especially for an older home, for plumbing and electrical, more so than HVAC. For the plumbing, the coverage has been a bit easier. The electrical, it's always like, “Well, they don’t fix something that’s not there.” So, if it needs to be upgraded or if it doesn’t exist, they don’t do that. But if it's broken, they do it.
The HVAC has been very good unless it needs to be replaced. It could not be American Home Shield as much as it's the individual vendor. Again, it was that Montgomery vendor. The way that they offer the upgrade to replace the whole system was an issue. So, to replace the component that’s not working, no problem. They would do it. But most of the times, people are now wanting to replace the whole thing because the refrigerants are gonna be different nowadays. And I kinda feel like we were given a little bit of some bias. So, it wasn’t the peace of mind for an old system that I was hoping for to have it replaced, it was more like, “We'll fix it but we don’t necessarily cover getting you a new system."

One of our sinks was leaky. There was a leak at the joint. The guy showed up a couple of days after I submitted the claim and he fixed it, and it worked. Everything was fine including filing that claim online. I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of months now and there was a very bad experience that I had with their service aide, their electrical contracting.
I emailed them about a complaint about it or under their survey, I put how poorly it was done, but I never heard back. There was a minor electrical problem, but there was a cable in the wall. I got a wire in the wall that had been stripped 'cause the person who installed it was an idiot. The guy came in to fix it. They put an outlet in the spot, where the joint had to be, 'cause they cut out the broken section and rewired it. But the box they put in was not on a GFCI circuit, even though it was right under a water area, which was not according to code. I haven't gotten an official response yet from the other electrician. And they also left all the garbage, like all the stripped wire, just sitting on the floor. They pushed it around the corner and walked away.
The only reason I've got American Home Shield is that when we bought the house, one of the conditions was that the previous seller included the warranty so that small problems could be fixed. I’ve used it three times now. There was an air conditioning problem that went reasonably well, but it took a couple of days for them to get there. There was the plumbing issue that was fixed well and the electrical issue that was done very poorly. And I don't think it would be worth continuing to pay for it on my own if I had to pay for that out of pocket.

Our water heater was leaking and I filed a claim with American Home Shield. Ever since they did the online thing for filing claims, it has been amazing. I like that more than calling and the only time I’d call is if I want a specific company to work on the property. I love that I'm able to pick the company that we want to go out. But I absolutely hated the company that AHS sent for my water heater. Master Plumbers waited nine days to go out to my property. I called them every couple of days and they would say that they were getting on it. It was a small leak, so it wasn’t too bad. Then finally, it was ruining my floor. So, I called and the lady that answered the phone said, “We will get to it when we get to it.”
I decided to call American Home Shield to see if there was anyone else they could get on faster. The guy that answered was awesome and he called Master Plumbers, who told him the same thing. So, he went ahead and canceled it and I had to wait for somebody else to call me to figure out who else could go out. But then, Master Plumbers called me that evening saying that they could go out and I was okay with it. It took 30 minutes for their tech to assess the issue, get the water heater approved through AHS and then it was on its way.
But it took Master Plumbers another week to put the water heater in. I wrote down the exact day I called, the exact time, and how long I talked to them because it ruined my kitchen floors, bubbled up right where the entrance to the laundry room is at and they still tried to blame it all on me. They should’ve been on it and they told me that they don’t even really like American Home Shield. They were trying to blame it on American Home Shield but AHS had nothing to do with it. The only problem with filing the claim online is I didn’t get to specify what’s going on. So, I wasn’t able to actually put that the water heater was leaking. I just put water heater and that’s it. But other than that, American Home Shield replaced the water heater. So, I’m happy with the services that they provide and I’m gonna continue to get it. I wanted to get a second opinion to make sure it’s all well and good. I dealt with somebody else to come and take a look who was actually a yearly service. They said everything was fine and that I didn't have to change anything. That guy was very experienced and he was able to say that that was typical during the summer here and once in a while, you have Freon changes. He did a good technical solution.
The only area that I have concerns with is whenever I have an appliance issue, they won’t give me the same appliance. And then I have to check with them why not and they seem to have this generic policy that they would just replace an appliance that doesn’t have the aesthetics right. Once, the refrigerator went bad and they would not give me the choices. I called their supervisor and told him that I have a custom home and that I couldn’t just pick any refrigerator and put it there. It was aesthetically not pretty. They were able to work with me for an equivalent one, which is matching my colors that I wanted. They are reasonable.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for over 18 years and it has been very good for me. Nowadays, they've made submitting claims very convenient. Earlier, I had to give them a call. Now, they just send a text or email and it seems to be fine. And they have a contractor in 24 hours but if it is late, they will tell me. In some cases, they call within the same date to schedule. I've been dealing with American Home Shield since 2003. I've had a lot of run-ins with them throughout the years and the customer service on some instances really sucked. Most of it had to do with our house being an older home that had an oil furnace and there are very few people that can deal with oil furnaces. Some of the contractors they’ve sent in the past have been horrible. They’ve not been qualified to deal with an oil furnace. And then, one time they sent somebody that said they replaced the part but they didn’t. Throughout the years, we went on many winters without a furnace in a very cold house due to the said issues with the contractors.
I recently had trouble with the heater through the winter and the guy that came said he couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I still couldn’t get the furnace to work. I had to do it manually by changing the thermostat. I had to call a third time and they sent the same contractor to work on it and he said, “I can't find anything wrong with it. I don't know what it is." I stood there with this young man in front of the thermostat that I had to keep messing with to get the heat to come on and I said, “Listen, have you thought that maybe there's something wrong with the thermostat?” “Ah, well, I guess I'll change it out.” He changed the thermostat out and it's been working ever since. But since when does the customer have to tell the guy coming to fix something, me advising him in what he should do?
I was widowed two years ago and to be in this house by myself and have no heat and it's a good thing it didn’t go out when my husband was ill because I don't know what I would have done because he wasn’t well. So, I'm not happy with American Home Shield. And I'm glad I don’t have to deal with them as I have sold my home and I'm just waiting to close. I am moving into a senior housing apartment.
With my most recent claim, I had a plumbing leak in the crawlspace and so I called them. The plumber came within a couple of days which was nice and it worked out just fine. He was thorough and did a good job. So, there have been some good times with American Home Shield but they’ve been far out-shadowed by the personnel that they sent to respond. I have about a three inch stack of times I've had to call American Home Shield and then I have to call them back again and again and said, “Please don’t send the same person,” but they continue to send the same people who don’t seem to get the job done.
And then when I call to have somebody come to my house, I'd be on the phone for sometimes 45 minutes waiting for them to answer. The only way I got around that was by talking to a couple of realtors that I know and they said, “Well, here’s a person that you can call that bypasses that.” And that’s what I've been able to do for the last two years. I've been calling this other number that doesn’t go through the same 800 number that’s listed on the internet. So, I bypassed the system a little bit, but that didn’t give any more confidence in people coming to the house.
I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield because the people that they contract with don’t seem to be the most qualified candidate. Although when I had an issue with something other than the oil furnace, the people that they sent seemed to be qualified. So I'm basing the whole system on me being stuck with the oil furnace, which has been the whole crack of the issue from the time we moved here in 2003. It's been the lack of qualified people to work on my oil furnace and also them being responsive to my need when I say, “I know there's a company that’s up the street. It may cost me more but I'm willing to pay more if you can send that qualified person,” and they would never do that.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My dishwasher wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield and the contractor that they sent out was fabulous but it took them a long time to get the parts. The tech had to do two circuit boards, the main board and the backup board, and that took a while. And there really wasn’t any communication until I called them back at National Platinum. They got the part in about three weeks, then I set up an appointment and their guy showed up. He diagnosed and fixed the problem, then he was gone in less than an hour.

Submitting the online claim for an AC unit repair with American Home Shield was easy and convenient. Then the contractor responded in a timely manner, but they had serviced too much of the home warranty and exceeded some number of steps, so they had to come back. Everything felt too long when it's 100 degrees outside. I work from home so that made it uncomfortable and we had to fight through 80-something-degree weather while we slept. But they got here in the morning and the contractor worked out fine.

I have two air conditioners and both of them weren't cooling the house down at all. When I originally submitted the claim, I got a call from the company that was contracted to do the work. But the claim was submitted for only one unit and they said that I had to call back and resubmit the claim. I did that but American Home Shield then gave me two different companies for the two air conditioners. I had to call and get that straightened out so there would be only one company coming to the house. Once we got that all ironed out, the claim went smoothly. And one of the most impressive things was how quickly they got somebody assigned to fix the problem. When I put the claim in, I got a call within 24 hours and scheduled the appointment to get the repairs done.
AirPro Air Conditioning and Heating came out and they were perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better service. I was impressed with the timeliness and the willingness to explain what was going on with the unit. The units are working great now. There wound out to be leaky parts in both air conditioning units. Most of the time, what's wrong with air conditioning is you've probably got the refrigerant low or leaking. That's costly when you have to pay $20-something a pound. But American Home Shield doesn't cover much of the refrigerant cost. Still, I understand because we have the older unit.

I've been with American Home Shield for about five years now and I haven't had any major concerns with them. But, I've had one bad experience with them when I first got them. I had to go over the girl's head who I talked to and I had to go to a supervisor who rectified it right away. It took me a while to get to that point, though, because she didn't think it was necessary to send a repairman out then. But, I tried to tell her that it was, so I had to go over her head.
The latest claim I filed with them was for my heat pump system. I have a maintenance on that and when the maintenance people came out, they said that I had a leak and that I had no Freon left. I called American Home Shield and when a tech came out, he basically just checked what I told him what's going on. He determined that there was no leak and that I had even excess Freon in the system. He also said that if it didn't have Freon, why would it be blowing cold air.
I never thought it was a Freon problem too, but I wanted to make sure before I turned it on for the summer that it had Freon in it. I think my heat pump is not cooling efficiently because when I put it on 77, it only will cool up to 80 degrees. It's just having a hard time stabilizing the temperature and pushing the system because the unit is old. It's 12 years old and it's taxing it because of this hot weather. However, the maintenance company did not agree with American Home Shield. The manager from the maintenance company said that the tech American Home Shield sent out was lying. He also said that my system wouldn't last through summer. So, I have contradictory reports.

I bought this house in March, closed in April, and I moved in. There was a situation where a pipe has some shield in the outside that's supposed to keep it from freezing when it freezes. But it froze and it didn’t leak unless I turn the water on and put pressure on the line, or it wasn’t noticeable if it was leaking prior to that so really what it came down to was a frozen copper water pipe that burst inside the wall. We called American Home Shield and made a claim. The plumbing guy from Plumbers Inc. took almost a week to come out because they were out of Riverside and the repair guy covers a tremendous territory over here in the Prescott area so if the pipe was leaking, and I couldn’t have gotten him over here any sooner, then I would've just had to bust into the wall and deal with it myself.
It seems to me that the insurance doesn’t care too much about what kind of problem I was having. If it takes a guy a week to get here, there's something wrong with the process and they don’t give any indicator of recognizing a priority. But when he came out, he did a good job and I have no problem with him. He was just doing what he was instructed to do by the company. But he didn't take care of it immediately. He had to come back after they tore the wall to see exactly what the damage was, and that took three days.
There was a restrictor device on the outside of the faucet because it was used for irrigating, so it wouldn't build up a lot of pressure and bust my irrigation system. That being on there was what really caused the pipe to burst in the first place. The guy had inadvertently left it on there, and it still had water in the line, and it froze. When I put my finger over the faucet and I could stop the water, I thought that it was so strange. I went on to do something else, and I heard the panic call from my wife that our closet was flooded with water. I went in, and the water was coming out of the wall. I cleaned it all up, and it's not continuing to flow out of there.
The deal was, I knew the plumber who did the plumbing for the house and I had their name, but American Home Shield wouldn’t authorize those people to come out and look at it. I accepted the fact they wouldn't do it and didn’t ask them for an explanation. Somebody else has purchased the policy for me and I was at American Home Shield's mercy.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My microwave was broken. I called American Home Shield and the representative who I talked to on the phone was good. When the contractor came out, he took a look at it but could not take the microwave out. There is a vent on the outside of the house and there was a bird's nest on it, so he thought that there might be feathers all the way to the microwave and the AC was damaged because of the bird's nest. He just said, "Call your company," and then he left. I got the vent cleaned and then when the microwave was removed, it was done in three minutes. I had the microwave left in the garage and then I called American Home Shield to tell them that the microwave was out and I didn't see any bird feather. I asked them to look at it but I didn't get any reply.
After three weeks, I called Home Depot and asked them to give me a new microwave to replace the broken one. I couldn't wait that long without a microwave so I ended up buying a new one. Then finally, I got ahold of this guy and he was saying that they will not fix it. The claim was rejected. I asked for a second opinion and told them that they could come and take a look. He said they don't do that. I paid $125 for American Home Shield to send a person to my house, but he didn't fix it and they could not even give me a reason and my $125 back. I've also had to call about five times in about a month to get my service and an answer and it's not even worth the wait. I didn't get anything--no email, text, and phone call. American Home Shield is a good company I've had a great experience with them. We had a problem with the dryer as it wasn’t heating properly. But that was taken care of by AHS. Then we had a claim recently for some outside faucets that were leaking. The contractor filed the claim with AHS letting them know that the work was gonna be a bit more expensive. They were waiting to hear back from AHS, but they never heard back from them. When I looked at their claim file, AHS said it was closed, as if the claim had been resolved. But this wasn’t resolved and no work has been done. The money has already been taken from my account and nothing has happened. Although, I haven't contacted AHS about this issue as of yet.
I go online to submit claims with AHS, but I have called and spoken with them before and our interactions were smooth. The contractors are good and the majority of their contractors that they send resolve the issue with no problem. Some of them, their work is better than others, so, it’s a hit-and-miss thing. Every once in a while, I run into one of those fly-by-night people that look like they are on the list not because of the quality of work, but because AHS offers steady work. However, their work does not speak volumes and is not top-notch quality. If I was to have hired them myself and paid them, I would be very upset. But because I could always contact AHS to complain about the work, and they possibly will send them back out or give me another contractor, it hasn’t been a big issue.
I would tell others to sign up with AHS right away. I wish I would have known about them 20 years ago as they would have saved me a ton of money. I’ve been in the rental business for 15 years. And I’ve spent countless dollars on fixing appliances and replacing appliances whereas I could have been protected through a company like AHS, and I wouldn’t have had these major issues.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield by email on their website for the controller that operates my pool which was about a $700 item. Using their website has been very easy. Then within 24 hours, I was contacted by Reflection Pool. And within 24 hours again, Reflection Pool visited my home, determined what the problem was, and said it would probably take three days to get the part in. I got a call the very next day and was told that they have the part. The tech came over and installed it and it has worked beautifully. The issue was over with and taken care of absolutely beautifully. Also, my interactions with the contractor have been absolutely outstanding. They've been good enough that I hired them to do some other work for me.
With the claim I filed that had to do with the hot water tank, I called it in. The contractor contacted me then came and ran some tests in the house. They've been very good. The plumber said it looked like it needed to be replaced but that would be determined by American Home Shield, so he left. However, I have never heard a single word from American Home Shield whether they declined it or accepted it. You can't contact them directly too. There's nobody who answers the phone. The only way you can do it is to go online, pay $75, and put in a claim. I've sent an email and I've been waiting for them for a month now.

In my most recent claim with American Home Shield, plumbing work was done on my master bathroom and a guest bathroom. Top Notch Plumbing was the company who came out. The guy fixed the guest bathroom but I had issues with the master bath. When he left, everything was okay but during the next day, my master bath started running water again. It was functional but just flushing the toilet in, it would run and then it would stop. It was almost like someone was pouring water. I could hear it in the tank so I called American Home Shield to let them know and they set it back up again with the same company.
Top Notch Plumbing emailed me and that was where the issue started. They told us to reply to the email or call so they would know when do we want them to come back. I replied to the email and didn't get any response back. I also called and left messages but there was no response as well. They emailed back a day later asking us if we wanted the Tuesday 1:00 appointment to which I replied with a yes. I also tried to call again and left a message that I wanted that schedule but there was no response from them again even a day later. When they replied, they said that that appointment was already filled up and it would be better to call the office. At that point, I was really already upset. I replied to their email but they reply back so late.
Finally, they called me and I told them that I was calling them but no one was calling me back. I told the lady I spoke with, Hailey, that their customer service was terrible and that I had been trying to get with them and it shouldn't take four or five days to make an appointment. She answered me that if I didn't want them to serve me, I could call American Home Shield and have someone else out. She then asked me if I wanted the appointment or not. An apology would have gone a long way with me at that time. Instead, I got a nasty feedback from her. I didn't appreciate the unprofessional attitude. She was completely rude. And since I didn't want to delay my toilet repair any longer, I went ahead and made the appointment.
The contractor came back and fixed the toilet. The problem is solved and everything is correct now. I called American Home Shield regarding my issue with them and they made a note on my account that I no longer want their company to service me again ever. I've looked up their reviews online and it made me feel better that everybody was saying that their customer service was terrible. The reps were rude and argumentative. They left a bad taste in my mouth and I was not the only one who experienced it. Overall, American Home Shield had been great. It was just that vendor who was not great at all.

I filled out a claim approx two months ago about a well problem. They sent All About Plumbing company to my home. The plumber got out of the van almost asleep yawning all time. He tried to get his tools out the back doors. A great big water heater almost fell out on my driveway. He could not get his tools to fix the problem. He told it could cost as much as $3000.00 if it was the well pump or about $400.00 if it was the switch. It cost me a $133.00 and he said he could not fix it now. I called AHS. They said to get my own plumber and I did. The other plumber fixed in about an hour for $ 200.00. AHS did not pay me my money back for the $200.00.
This month a pipe started leaking in my bathroom. I called them. They said to get my own plumber. I did and sent them the bill. It was $450.00 minus the $120.00 I paid the plumber. They just sent me a letter today 6-15-2018. They would not pay the $320.00 left. Said they did not tell me to do that. Do not deal with these crooks.

This warranty was paid for by the sellers of the home I just purchased. This warranty company is incompetent, the plumber called me 36 hours after I made a request for service. I tried to cancel the service but there is nowhere to cancel when you log in, so I called and waited on hold for what seemed like eternity and ended up hanging up. The dryer company called within an hour of requested service only to tell me they could not come for ten days, I don't think this is a reasonable amount of time for a service call. I ended up paying out of pocket for all and will not call this company again. All in all this is what I expected before I called them. Hope this message reaches anyone considering purchasing a home warranty from American Home Shield.

Contacted American Home Shield to report a complaint against the air conditioning company they referred to conduct a home air conditioning repair. With outside temperatures in the high 90s the a/c company disassembled our unit and stated it would be repaired in 1-2 days. On day 3, I tried contacting the company and they would not answer the phone. I contacted American Home Shield and they were unconcerned about the fact that my family (to include my 68 year old mother, a 2-year old and a 4-year old child) has no a/c in upper 90-degree weather. American Home Shield told me the a/c company had no obligation to me because I was not their customer, I was an American Home Shield customer. I am a very dissatisfied customer and would NOT recommend American Home Shield to anyone!
Good afternoon Erica,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have the AC system repaired during the higher temperatures. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the competition of the repairs.

My Whirlpool dishwasher broke on Monday, May 21st, I placed a service call to AHS. The first person I spoken to at AHS was very nice and pleasant, I explain the situation and they will get it assigned to a technician. This is where all the problems begin. The tech call and states she needed the name of the dishwasher- I explain to her that I was at work and will have to call her back to give her the model and serial number. She called me back 10 minutes later and ask if I had the information. I explain to her again that I was at work and I will call her back on tomorrow when I have the information. The next day she has called back and I gave her the information. She then ask what is the refrigerator doing. I explain to her that it was the dishwasher and then she says ok. She then explains to me that they only fix refrigerators and that I will have to call AHS again and set up an another appointment.
Problem number 2, I called AHS and had to explain the situation again and they got it assigned to S&S Appliance Parts and Service LLC which was another nightmare. The technician at S&S Appliance never did call me, I called them to schedule. This is where the problem continues, the person on the phone who was ** said he don’t come out to my area on weekends or after dark. I’m ** by the way, the area that I stay at is a ** neighborhood and all of my neighbors are ** so I didn’t understand that. So I call AHS back and explain what the tech said and see if I can get another company to come out in that case a ** owned company, she said they don’t have it setup like that in their computer system. I said ok fine as long as the issue get resolved.
I paid my deductible and then the tech came out on Thursday, June 7th, who was ** also, very nice and remarkable, told me that they need parts for the dishwasher and he had to order them and they should be in on next Wednesday and then on Friday, June 15 he would put them in. Mind you on Thursday June 14, I got a phone call message from S&S to confirm my appointment. I have taken off of work on the beginning of the day, waited all day for the tech to come back out, then I get a phone call from this ** guy who says the parts didn’t come in. I ask to explain more and he said the parts went to another part of Alabama and that he can reschedule. He never did apologize or anything.
I called AHS back and explain the situation again and see what was going on., he called S&S and they told him that the parts was in and the tech have to come out at the end of the day. I explain to AHS what they told me. I called S&S back and spoken to a very rude ** woman, who told me that I didn’t have an appointment today and my appointment was schedule for June 29th, I said, "No. If my schedule was that then explain to me why I got a phone call on yesterday confirming my appointment." She told me that I was being very rude and she didn’t have to talk or explain anything to me and hung up the phone.
I went to AHS website to confirm the tech from that company and reschedule and just so happened my password and my account has been locked out. I wonder if AHS still going to withdraw money out of my account at the end of the month. AHS and S&S has been the worse company to deal with and when this is over I will be looking to cancel my contract with AHS.

In short, please save yourself time, misery and a whole lot of money and go with someone else - anyone else.

He determined that the key opener was no good anymore. He then had to return and place an order for a new opener. It took about a week and then everything was resolved. I’m very happy and satisfied. I made a request with American Home Shield for a contractor to service the ice-maker. I filed the claim online because it was hard to get through to them and the hold time was too long. But, initially, the experience was not good. The company they sent out did a rush job and didn't correct the problem. They found and fixed a leak in the water valve, but they never addressed the problem with the ice-maker making ice, so we had to call for them to come out again. When they came back, they said a part would have to be ordered, but when they realized that the part couldn't be ordered, they deemed the ice-maker as not fixable and they ended up replacing it. This is the second rental property we had and our experience with this claim was better than what I've had with AHS previously. This time, it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. But the last year was a disaster with them.

I dealt with one of American Home Shield's contractor quite a bit, and they were great but they weren't all that helpful. After they got noticed from Home Shield to deliver my oven, they showed up at my house unannounced and I was at work. And I didn’t schedule anything with them and my girlfriend didn’t. So I called them and told them that they should have left me a voicemail saying they were here. So they said they were sorry and set the delivery up for that Saturday. And on that Saturday, I had a minor car accident, and I couldn’t get across town to get in here, so I called them reasonably early and asked where we were on the list because we might not get there on time. And they said we were the next stop and they were gonna be here in less than an hour and that they didn't have anything else to do.
They were nice and agreed to reschedule it, but they said because it was a warranty placement, they couldn't reschedule it with us then and we'd have to schedule it with Home Shield. They'd give Home Shield a note, and Home Shield would call us on Monday or we could call them. But the Home Shield folks have no idea what the guys were thinking. So then the following Monday, Home Shield didn’t call me which was fine and I didn’t call them. And then on Tuesday afternoon, I got a message on my voicemail while I was at work saying, “We’re here, where are you?” But I hadn’t scheduled anything with them, and Home Shield didn’t. They were really polite but they misdelivered twice and when I had to cancel myself, then they gave me inaccurate information about how I was to schedule it.
So then, when I called the contractor and said, “What’s the deal here? This was the 3rd round and I don’t kind of understand." And they said it had been over 10 days, so they had to ship it back to the manufacturer. I called Home Shield and they said there was gonna be a restocking fee, which wasn’t cheap. So then, after a number of conversations with Home Shield that I had no problem with, then they decided to split the cost of the restocking fee with me.
Then the oven was re-delivered and I was there, and there was no problem with the scheduling but the oven was the wrong size. And it wasn't their fault necessarily, and maybe it was GE’s fault, but what was weird was they convinced me to keep the oven even though it wasn’t satisfactory. I was on the phone with Home Shield, but I couldn’t get through and I was on hold, and I didn’t know if I was to accept the oven or hand it back or if I had to pay another restocking fee. So they sort of convinced me in a nice way to keep it and said it’s gonna be cheaper for us when GE makes good on it because it’s just the wrong size. I called GE and they weren’t helpful.
I called Home Shield back and they were really helpful again. One person I’ve talked with wasn’t so much helpful because he was new, but I talked with four folks and I didn’t feel like I was getting the run-around and three of those times they were outstanding. They spent a lot of time with me on the phone trying to figure it out, and they put me on hold, and they called GE, but they didn’t get any satisfaction from GE. The guy then went to talk to a supervisor and then told me that they'd split the cost with me and that they were sorry this has happened. They were really flexible.
Then they said they were gonna send somebody else out from a different organization. And when they came out and looked at my oven, they said, “We don’t know what those other folks were talking about.” So they installed the oven and it works fine. And I’m happy with the oven. And fortunately, I don’t use an oven much but it was bizarre that it took me months to get the oven delivered. And while I don’t have any complaint with Home Shield, the folks that they contract with and delivered in Portland seemed friendly and diligent but there was some crossed wires somewhere.

I’ve had three things that I’ve had to do with American Home Shield since I bought this house. The handle of the microwave was broken off and it couldn’t be repaired, the dishwasher needed to be repaired and then I had a thermostat from my furnace that didn’t work and that also needed to be repaired. I had started the project with another company that went out of business. And so, they were not able to complete the job.
I ended up having to get shifted to the other company, which was American Appliance Repair and they were good. They came down from Crescent City, which is about a 45-minute drive, and they looked at the parts and ordered the parts, but the parts took a long time to come in. The contractor did the work one evening on the way home because I was here and he was here as well, and it saved us both having to make another appointment. The dishwasher was fixed and has worked fine since the repair. I was trying to figure out when my policy ran out because I think I’m gonna opt for another year depending on how much it costs and also, AHS has been so helpful for me to solve problems I couldn’t otherwise solve.

We put in a claim for American Home Shield online and then another by phone. The phone process got messed up because we have two policies and it sent them to the wrong place initially, but the online one was nice. Once we had the mix up with the phone call, I had to speak with a representative. It took a ton of time to get someone live on the phone through the number. It was really hard and quite an ordeal. We waited for 15 or 20 minutes trying to get a live person, but once we got them they were super helpful and they got everything fixed.
Then, we love the contractors that came out. We had Gator Drain both times for the plumbing issue and then they sent an appliance person for another claim we had, and everybody’s been great. We have a rental property and we actually had the plumbers come out three times now trying to fix the same problem. That was a little disappointing but the guys were super nice and very efficient. I stayed out there with him because I’ve never been properly trained on the pool and I’ve had it for seven years now. But he confirmed that I was doing well, and everything was good. The condenser coil of air conditioner went bad and AHS had to replace it. The submitting the claim part was easy. But the process to get things done was very difficult. Their process is you file a claim and then they'll send a contractor out and his first visit is to assess the problem to determine what it is. So that's one visit. And then you have to make another schedule once they've done that. And they file back with the insurance company and then they give them permission to move ahead to get parts or stuff like that. Once they've got that, then they have to once more submit to execute it. It was a lengthy process and that was my biggest complaint. So I was without air conditioning about three weeks in the process. They need to fix it
The other problem is with the contractor. I know they don’t have full control over it but their policy was, "When we come on this day, you have to be available from anytime between eight in the morning and five at night. And we'll give you half hour notice," and if I miss that thing then I've got to go to the end of the line again. It was very difficult for me as a homeowner just to stay around so that I could be there for when they call and say, "We're half hour away." I am retired but I work part-time so I had to take time off and stuff like that for these visits. As far as them handling the claims and all that, I've had no complaints. They seemed seamless. It's just I'm not terribly fond of the contractors they necessarily use.
But the contractor did a good job. Everything works fine. We've had hot weather and the air conditioner has kept the cool. It doesn’t seem to be losing Freon and I'm keeping an eye on that, like how much it runs and it seems to be holding up fine. I would recommend AHS. I work with contractors and subcontractors all the time so I know what they deal with but I feel they offer a valuable service and it worked well for me. It's just a whole lot of work making it happen.

American Home Shield should have at least a phone number so that in case people don’t find the item that they are looking for, they can call and talk to someone else.
The contractors worked fine for both of the claims, although for the refrigerator, the tech said that there was nothing to do. The water was flowing very slow, but this was related to the plumbing and not to the appliance itself, so we didn't solve that. I called some people before and they told me there was an issue on the water dispenser which was different from the feedback that I got from the one that I called from American Home Shield. Still, American Home Shield is perfect.

When we had a plumbing issue, we submitted a claim to American Home Shield by calling it in. We had a low pressure in our house that if we use the kitchen sink and the shower, we would have low, low pressure. The contractor who came out to diagnose it was great. The guy was direct and cut-and-dry. He was very quick as well. He got the parts that he needed and fixed it. And then he handled everything with American Home Shield once he came out. That was very convenient and nice. In fact, he took good care of us and seem to be fine about taking on that responsibility for the rest of it. It was part of our warranty after all. Overall, everything else is good with American Home Shield. The people are knowledgeable but you literally have to wait a tremendous amount of time to get a rep. That has been my only issue since we've had them.

Our dryer would run but wouldn't heat so I called AHS and I got an appointment right away. They really worked with me on that knowing we have a family and we needed the dryer. The contractor came out and he had trouble fixing the unit so he called a supervisor who came out within an hour. They then worked on fixing it and they got it running but it stopped again within two hours after they left. So, I called right back and the person I talked to told me that it might take a week. I told her that that won't do. They had to order a part and it came in after three days. The contractor came out and fixed it. It all worked and everything went well. It's definitely worth having a protection on your things that can break down on you.

The contractor had to come three times, but the plumber was nice and it was a good experience. However, my experience with the air condition people was terrible. They came out the first time and the heat and the cool were not working, so the man told me I needed freon, but then the circuit board was also messed up, so I needed a new circuit board. The man said he would leave and they would order a new circuit board, which would take a week, and they’d call me to schedule the appointment. I said okay and that was somewhere at the beginning of March. I called that Friday, and nothing. They said it was coming the next Friday, and I said okay. Every time I called, for three or four times, they kept telling me the part would arrive the next Friday.
I had been calling the company directly for about a month and I finally got frustrated with them, so I called American Home Shield to get the issue escalated. I was very tempted to cancel my whole policy because if that was the type of company that AHS would be sending me, then I would just fend for myself. That company was terrible. It took two months for me to get my air conditioner fixed. Overall, my interactions with the AHS reps have been good. They were helpful when I needed to call and get help. Also, once the work was done, it was done well. I would just warn people to be mindful of the company being sent because they could turn on you quickly.

But the technicians from the company that AHS dealt with were not so okay. They came in and said they had fixed the problem. But when they were done with the repair, they just left and never told us what was wrong or what they fixed and how they fixed it. I've had a couple of recent claims with American Home Shield, and SWAT Plumbing came out twice. I had a sink issue and I had an outside water faucet issue. The sink was dripping. We had an old cartridge so we had to wait for that one to come in, so it took awhile. But SWAT did the job. And they were nice, and our sink and outside faucet are working now.
The only thing is from the few times that we've used American Home Shield, sometimes it takes awhile for somebody to call us. And then after we called then we gotta wait until the next person calls so sometimes it's not as expedited as I would like it to be. And sometimes, they're not very fast with time. In the past, when I called, somebody calls me that day normally and I may not be on his map that day but at least I talked to somebody that day. Other than that, having American Home Shield has been helpful.

Buying a new or used home? Considering a home warranty? Thinking about American Home Shield? DON'T DO IT!!! The WORST customer experience. Online is fine; but if calling, you must navigate a series of commercials & offers to figure out the right sequence to get to an agent. Took me 3 times, then on-hold for 45 minutes to get an agent to discuss. AHS EXPLOITS new homeowners through its claims of offering insurance for maintenance and repairs. This is NOT TRUE. We've kept the service for years, for the peace of mind after we bought a repo in a new area where we didn't have a connection with local contractors.
After years of not needing anything (that's what insurance is for, right?), we filed 2 claims in the last month and both have been rejected because the technicians couldn't find parts (they are no longer available from the manufacturer) so the contractors FALSELY report the claim to AHS as broken/damaged due to "excessive force" or "misuse" by the homeowner. No point arguing, as AHS staff are trained to enforce a "NO-PAY" policy. They do offer to get a 2nd opinion, but if that turns out to be same finding, they charge you another visit fee.
In many cases, it's cheaper & easier to just get it fixed elsewhere. You'll do better by building a relationship with local services companies "jack of all trades" and use them on an ad-hoc basis or setting aside reserves of your own for "just in case" you need repairs, rather than paying a monthly fee to these guys with no guarantee that you'll actually get the support from the service. Particularly on an older home or with older appliances that might be difficult to repair. Warn your friends & neighbors.

I have been on the phone way too long, heard conflicting reports, been given conflicting instructions, and excessively long wait times. It should not take 10-14 days to finish paperwork for an electric water heater replacement. They intentionally delay and complicate the process in an effort to get out of the contracted obligation. Their website and contract clearly state they will repair or replace water heaters. Yet to date, they have refused to do either. My first experience was no different. I believe this company is a scam, a waste of money, and your time. Homeowners can save money and find better service and results by simply getting on the phone and calling local service companies. After 2 weeks one guy came and tried 3 options and said we have to reschedule again. I was upset again and asked him to redo the 2nd option again. The stoppage was fixed. So mindless and money making. Then I got the bill for $75 again and I explained them that you promised to waive off and they denied this time. So I myself purchased a warranty with your company and now that I need it, guess what? It is not there for me, so I have paid almost 1,000 in payments, and when I had to call a technician it was 125.00 dollars for the visit, then Ambient Air, told me I had a leak and I needed 4lbs of freon, but American Home Shield only pays 10.00 a pound and the cost of freon is 90.00 dollars a pound. And Ambient Air also said I needed a new filter, guess what American Home Shield also does not cover that, another 125.00 dollars. Then two hours go by I call Ambient Air, the air conditioner is not working. I am told to give it some time because the house has been hot. I wait a day. Still not working. Call again, I am told have to wait for American Home Shield to approve second visit.
Finally technician comes out, Now I need a coil for system, have to wait for approval from American Home Shield, CALL 5 TIMES, each time the system is down, they can not help me!! Meanwhile My dogs and my boyfriend and I are burning up. American Home Shield now calls me next day to tell me that I have to pay another 325.00 so they can put in the coil for the air conditioner, they do not want to purchase the one I need they need to get a different one. Will it even work after they do that? Do not know, Soooo I called and asked to speak to a manager, guess what the representative that answered the phone on the 3 occasions would not let me. This is their procedure!!! So here I am still hot not fixed yet, wow make sure you read your Contract!!! I asked for a manager to Call me back guess, it did not happen!! And then the contractor said it would be a week before they could show up and put another water heater in. So I had to go out and find somebody to put a water heater in because there’s no way I could expect my wife to hang out for a week without any hot water.
AHS didn't help me. After I had the water heater installed and provided them the installation receipt, the only thing they did was tell me they would refund some money back as soon as they had taken that item off the American Home Warranty. It's frustrating because you’re paying for a service and then there are so many limitations on it. You wonder whether you are actually getting your money’s worth out of it especially they immediately dock you the charge of $60 to send somebody out to come to the location.

We're now on our third year with American Home Shield. Some of our friends recommended it because they had a home the age as ours. So far, we had flood damage three times and we don't live in a flood zone. We also had a lot of repairs done to our house but it was all woodwork and walls. And our friends mentioned that over the course of three years, they had part of their air conditioner replaced, refrigerator, a washer, and an oven. And the insurance cost them about a $1,000 a year. They would call for repairs and the appliance would either get repaired or not. But if they couldn't repair the appliance, they'd completely replace it. And they could either upgrade or whatever. And so I thought, it beats having to try to find a repairman. And that was the reason we did it.
So far, I've spoken to the same girl the two times I have called and she was very helpful. She even called me back to make sure that she has the street number right. Also, my interaction with Greenway went well. They came out when they said they were coming out and they fixed the problem. When the guys that came out realized that they didn't have one of the right parts, they went ahead and put in the thermostat that they had and then came back the next day and put in the correct thermostat so we could have air conditioning.
Furthermore, I have a Bosch oven and I called them out about that one time because I don't think it is cooking right. The guy that came out checked it. He said that it's an air heat oven and that it's heating up like it should, and the only way I'm gonna be able to cook in it is turn the pan halfway through a recipe. He and I didn't agree on that, and up until about four months ago now, I had no problems with the oven. The oven is working, it's just not working the way I want it to work. But until something goes out that they can fix, I'm stuck with it. Nonetheless, I have recommended AHS to two other friends.

I'm not sure which stopped-up which but both were stopped-up. The technician ran his Roto Rooter through there and cleared it up.
Also, if you've tried to submit a claim by telephone, you'll love the online site. It takes forever to get straight through by phone. But I submitted that claim online and it was great. It's instant. If you sign on, you're right through and it's easy. I like everything about it. I have two properties with American Home Shield and I just toggle between the two properties, check out what I want and tell them what the problem is. A little bit later, somebody either calls me back or sends me a text that the call has been dispatched. American Home Shield is great and I appreciate the service.
