American Home Shield sent somebody out today to check on my air-conditioner. They sent a technician out here three times already. Someone was here the day before yesterday but I'm having a problem with the thermostat so today they’re sending a senior tech out from the same company, Christie Air-condition. Other than that, whenever I call American Home Shield, they sent someone out. I file my claims online and they contact me within 24 hours and have somebody set up an appointment to come out. So far, I’m satisfied with the service.

I’ve been using American Home Shield for the last four years and they've been very good. They sent some notes out about recommending to call the companies and do a pre-check for the air conditioning unit before the summer got too hot. I logged a ticket online and that was easy to do. The contractor took a couple of days to get here but when he came, he knocked on the door and did the check out, and all was good.

My washer wasn't working so I called American Home Shield to see what the issue was. Their rep was very courteous. They told me they would assign the problem to someone local that will set up a time to come and fix the issue. The contractor, Cooper Appliance Inc., was kinda busy and someone from their company came out after three days. I have submitted a couple of claims including one for my refrigerator and another for my washer, and they both had been handled by Cooper. I am in a small area and I’m not sure how many they service but it was okay. Their technician looked at the panel on the washer, explained what he thought might be the problem and had to reset it. The call was quick and he fixed the issue. I have had American Home Shield for a year here in Florida but I have used them in previous homes of mine and I've always been satisfied with them.

Since I've had Home Shield in the last five years, I've had six different visits, including HVAC and plumbing work being done. It was a little difficult to deal with the HVAC person, but with a little push, Home Shield worked and supported me as the account holder and they straightened out the provider to do their job. On a different note, the plumbing in the water closet behind the toilet wasn’t filling up, so I called in and got the email about the plumbing firm. I got a call, and we scheduled the service. The plumber came by, took care of the issue and he did it well. I would definitely recommend Home Shield and I'm renewing with them. I'm very satisfied and since this was my second home now, it's my primary. It was very good to have peace of mind when I was 500 miles away from that home. If there was an issue, it could be taken care of quickly.

My washing machine wouldn't spin out. I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor who was very polite, professional and helpful. He ordered the part and it took over a week to come in which I did not like. I couldn't do the laundry and I have three kids. But it wasn't anybody's fault and the washing machine has been working perfectly since the repair. The whole experience was pretty great. Try AHS out.

When our dryer went down, I called by phone to set up the claim and American Home Shield jumped on it really fast. They didn’t waste any time and it was done really professionally. The service was good as well. The contractor that came in was really friendly. He did the job and got it done quickly. The dryer has worked great ever since. It was a great experience to have as first-time homeowners and I’d definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend. The warranty is definitely a great thing to have if you’re a homeowner, especially if you're a first-time homeowner. When you move in, you don’t have to worry about certain appliances in case they break down. Wondering what could go wrong is one of the biggest stresses when you buy a house. But having that security knocked a big chunk of stress off.

I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield as our trash compactor wasn’t working. The process was very easy and then AHS sent their contractor, Greenway, who have always been great and done a good job. If they need a part, they don’t ever have it, so they have to come back with the part. The trash compactor has been running perfect since they were here. American Home Shield is a good program if the homeowner has older appliances. But if one has newer appliances, it wouldn't be worth the money.

The entire house was backed up so I called American Home Shield. They sent Union Plumbing out and Sean was really nice but their estimate was too high. So I went with another company. The comfort of having a warranty is if anything doesn't work, they can fix it and although the contractor didn't do things correctly, American Home Shield sent a plumber out and did exactly what they said they would do.

We went to make Easter dinner and we turned the oven on to preheat it. My husband smelled smoke so it must have been electrical, so we shut it off, pulled the breaker, and called American Home Shield. Submitting the claim was a really smooth process and the rep said she would have someone out. This was a Sunday and I was told I had to wait until the middle of the week, so I was hoping it will be a little sooner. Then, nobody came and I called and they said that we were on the schedule for the following week so I was not so happy about that. According to Home Shield, that was on Sears' end. They said they couldn’t control when Sears schedule it. But we confirmed the date with the young lady that I spoke with the day that I called it in. So I was positive it was that week I was told but I ended up having to wait another week.
When they showed, they took one look at it and said, “Oh well, it's an electrical issue. It's not our problem.” I had already waited a week longer than I was originally told I would have to and then they said it wasn’t even their problem. I called AHS back. I had the $150 deductible paid before they ever sent anybody out and they did not charge me another $150 for another electrician to come out, which I was thankful for. The electrician came within two days and he was awesome. He fixed the problem within 30 minutes and was gone. My oven hasn’t had any problems since. Apparently, the oven is hardwired into the house and there's a junction box behind it that malfunctioned. We had GE before we got Home Shield come out and repaired these ovens. Whoever put it back and put the electrical back didn’t tap it right. It was shorted out and that was the burning smell we were smelling and that’s why we couldn’t use it.
Also, I had an existing problem with the handles on my stove. I have a double oven and one of them got stuck so I don’t even use it and Sears said that they would order the replacement parts and that they would come the following Friday to fix that. But the handles came several weeks later and until this day, the handles are still here and nobody ever came back to fix them. I don’t necessarily think this is all Home Shield because these were the Sears guys but maybe they're indirectly responsible for their subcontractors. I could probably call Home Shield and tell them those guys were supposed to install these handles and they never did, but something tells me that that’s gonna be another $150 deductible so that’s why I've held off. I don’t think that replacing a couple of handles on a service is worth $150 to me.
We've only used AHS one other time and that was when the air conditioning went out last summer and that contractor seemed to have an attitude about having to fix it. It was almost like I was a bother to him. Other than that, it's good to have a home warranty and so far I don’t think it saved me any money yet, but when something major goes up, I'm hoping that it will. I like AHS so far but they definitely need to do a better policing who they're using.

The American Home Shield reps were courteous and they helped me every step of the way, and I was very happy. They have gone above and beyond and been more than beneficial. The contractor was a rough story because they installed the new air conditioner and they did not replace the inside coil. So, four days after it was installed it broke down again on the hottest weekend of the summer. I had to get a third party out to get us up and running until the fix was put in place. Now, though, it’s working as intended.

There was an issue with my dryer and my ice maker. I called American Home Shield and they were very helpful. Their rep was sending me Mick's Supply and I told her not to because I had a bad experience with them. They came out to fix my washing machine and they ordered a part but never got back with me, so I had to call and redo it again. The AHS rep made sure that I didn’t have that company and I really appreciated that.
The contractor that AHS sent this time was amazing. I wanna use them every time. Their tech called and said that he was on his way. I looked out my door and he was in my yard and I waved at him. Then he said that he’d be back at a certain day and he was back at that day and he was on time. I love them. Since then, the ice maker is making ice and the dryer is working. He told me that the timer had gone dead on the dyer so he replaced that. Everything is good now and it saved me $20 a week. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a year and I have just been loving their services. I recommend them to people all the time. If I call in after 12, I might have a little wait because that is when it gets busy. I always try to call at 7:00 o' clock in the morning when they open and I have no wait time.
Good afternoon Sandra,

The claim was submitted to a property manager and I thought that when the property manager issues a claim and the claim is fulfilled, I should get a copy of that but I haven't seen anything from American Home Shield or the property manager. Other than that, the contractors who were sent out were good and knowledgeable. Everything's good and I haven't had any other issues so far.

When I called to put in a claim, American Home Shield sent out Aeon Blue for the pool heater and the individual that was sent out misled us several times. I told AHS that I never want to see them in my house again. It was a huge mess. I was told that this has happened many times. The technician would call and say that he has an emergency and he has to go out of town and that AHS would have to assign this claim to another vendor. The other vendor called me and they knew how it worked. They said Aeon Blue have done this five or six times over the last year because AHS always assigned it to them and I verified that with American Home Shield.
Aeon Blue wound up with it again and so, they came out and told me they have ordered the heater but I’ll have to pay them around $500 to upgrade or to get things up to code. And I told them I am not paying them a dime and that was the end of it. So, I just do not trust Aeon Blue. They just wanted to line their pockets. I’m getting confused because no one really told me exactly what was going on. Long story short, nothing was ever done with my heater. Also, the American Home Shield reps are sometimes good and sometimes bad. It depends on who you get.
AHS would not let me close out that work order and start fresh with a new company. If a second company comes out and says that Aeon Blue has to do that, then I’ll trust them again but not really well. But AHS said they won’t do that so I’m just gonna let it go. I’m done talking with these people. It was horrible. Overall, I normally don’t have issues with AHS and this time, I had issues but it was Aeon Blue’s fault. Still, I am having a hard time with AHS because their app doesn’t work half the time, a lot of times their website is screwed up and their wait time to speak to an individual is very long. So to sum it up, AHS is hit and miss.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, you are encouraged to go online but being an elderly person, I would rather have person to person contact. And so, it was difficult to get in to talk to a person but when I got a hold of somebody, it was a positive interaction and everything was good. The service provided by the contractor for the refrigerator was very good and since the repair, the refrigerator has been great. In fact, I recommended two properties to AHS yesterday.

I've been with American Home Shield for about two and a half years and I've found them to be wonderful. I’ve never had a problem with them. It's easy submitting a claim on the phone and they send people right out. We need the air conditioner here in Texas everyday and if something goes wrong, they send somebody right out to fix it. Everybody who has come out has been good as well so I’m a satisfied customer. My mom recently moved in and she probably did something to the microwave. It was on fire and never had that happened before in all the years I’ve been using microwaves. In fact, the technician said that food got under the plate and I never had that happen. But the technician was a very nice man and he repaired it. American Home Shield has good people working for them and they did a good job although I will say that American Home Shield will repair stuff but they might not replace it.

My husband submits claims online and then he receives a call, whereas I still like to do everything by voice. It gives me affirmation and connection, and I like to explain things thoroughly. We’ve been having difficulties with the last couple of claims. Last time, we had to call twice for the washing machine because it wasn’t repaired and was actually worse. But afterwards, it was a quick clean fix. This time, we’re having a bit more trouble. We had done something with our pool and the light doesn’t come on now, which is major, especially at night. We like to have our light on for safety reasons or for company when we have our little nieces and nephews over. We don’t have very many lights out around the pool so the light is very important.
The tech has come back out twice and the light would flicker but it still doesn’t work. We’ve had to have several callbacks and we’ve tried to handle it with the technician to give them an opportunity to fix what went wrong. But at this point, we don’t know if we should call American Home Shield and tell them what happened. Having to bring the technicians back is one drawback then another one is we don’t know if we'd be getting quality replacements. The light we had before was infinitely better than the one that’s literally hanging on the wall now. The one we had was digital but this is just a piece of plastic garbage. American Home Shield also replaced a disposal before but my husband could have gone and gotten a $60 disposal because that was all they replaced it with.
We were always told that they would replace our stuff with at least the same quality product or better. I at least want them to be people of their word. They have probably saved us a lot of money over the years but we’re also paying a lot into it and I’m sure we’ve made them a lot of money over the years. Nonetheless, I’m glad for having American Home Shield because if something big breaks, we’re covered.

I have a main circuit breaker in the garage, and it kept popping every day literally. So daily, I had to go in and reset it. I went online and submitted a claim into the American Home Shield website and pushed it through. I had to follow up with them because it turned out it was not just one breaker that had a problem, it was three. So, it was considered three follow-ups. Speaking with their customer service was great and they were professional. I submitted the claim on a Wednesday, and they were able to get somebody out on Friday. The quick turnaround time makes the difference.
Furthermore, the contractor who came out was awesome. He explained everything to me about what the issue was, why it was happening and it goes down to old age since the system is 10 years old. He said it was normal, but he walked through. He did the work and he was quick. Now, everything works like it's supposed to. AHS should keep doing what they're doing. I would tell others that if they need AHS or if it's an option for them, then get it. It's well worth it.

AHS was very valuable. We’ve used it a few times. The main reason we got it is because our air-conditioning system was getting to be old and we were afraid it was going to go. And the air-conditioning is fine so far. Recently AHS sent #1 R & R Electrical All Stars to fix my garage door opener. My husband filed the claim online and they got someone out in 2 days. The technician was more late than he thought he was gonna be. We live in Clermont, in Florida and it was far away from the previous one he had serviced. And it was like rush hour so it was okay. The contractor tried to do a few other things and oiled the garage door to make sure that it wasn’t so loud. He explained that it is an old system and with it, they’re gonna keep working on it till it no longer works then they’ll replace it. But he also said that I can buy a new garage door for $250 since I have to pay another $75 when he comes out again. And then if he has to come out again after that, it’s gonna be more than $250. The Service Master Company d.b.a American Home Shield (the "Company") failed to reimburse me for costs related to replacing a broken garbage disposal that was covered under my American Home Shield contract. We were advised by the Company's agent on 6/7/18 that our garbage disposal claim was denied because, in the professional opinion of their contractor, there was a jam in the disposal caused by our negligence. The contractor did not see anything that might have caused the jam, but when he inserted his wrench in the disposal's underside, he found that the grinder was frozen. Therefore, he concluded that the problem was probably caused by a jam of our making. On that unverified basis, our claim was denied.
The following week we had our own contractor replace the "broken" disposal. Following its replacement, the contractor inserted his wrench into its bottom, just as the Company's contractor did, and snapped it quickly with his palm. At that moment, the grinder started to rotate freely. In the opinion of my contractor, the "broken" grinder was most likely caused, not by our negligence, but due to a burned out or frozen motor. The grinder is still in our possession and is available for the Company's further review, if requested. We are now out nearly $500 as a direct result of the Company's contractor's error in judgment. Clearly, the disposal covered by the Agreement was broken and should have been replaced by the Company's contractor when he first examined it. Consequently, we believe that the total cost of our replacing the unit should be covered, as provided for in our Home Protection Plan Agreement.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience

Updated on 08/09/2018: My AC unit broke down and for over a month it was back and forth with AHS. Then he told me I should just change to a new system but AHS will not cover it so I spent $6350 for a new unit only to discover after 4 trips to my house where the newly installed unit was malfunctioning that the problem with my system was actually the motherboard that was bad.

Please note that when you are being sold on the service of a home warranty they stress how there are no other charges but the service fee of $125... that is a lie. But what's even worse is it took a month for the tank to actually get replaced. When I called in to get and update status the AHS rep would blame a department and or the plumbing company. IF you have problem with AHS then you just out of luck. There is no recourse to be heard or have your concerns resolved. In the end I've been $2400 (premiums) + $125 (service Fee) + $450 (up-charge paid to plumber) = total of $2975 for a hot water tank that I would normally pay $500 (parts and labor).

The only thing that AHS needs to make more clear is that $75 fee and when it's paid. I've had contractors come in to my house in the past that have demanded the $75 check then and there. And my most recent experience, they said that it would be billed directly from American Home Shield so I was like, “Alright.” It's a little vague around that. Eventually, they came out and they looked at the ice maker. Their technician said he would order a new part and he did. Then they came out and fixed it. He then said to wait for 24 hours and it should start working. But it didn't start working, so I went to American Home Shield and I put in on the ticket that it wasn’t working, that I needed to reopen the ticket. They sent me a text saying that Airboss would be contacting me within 24 hours.
A week went by and nothing happened. American Home Shield was fine up until that point because I reached out and told them that I would like to talk to somebody about my case. I was put on hold two consecutive times for around 45 minutes, with the latter time being hung up on. So I reached out to them again, trying to see what I could do. My mom’s a realtor and she put me in contact with them initially. She knew somebody there that could help move things along and they were able to get Airboss back. They looked at it again and said it's something to do with the optics in the ice maker. Long story short, they had to order some parts and I got a call from American Home Shield to let me know that they ordered the parts and that they should be reaching out to me.
Overall, I haven't been able to contact Airboss unless the technician calls me directly. And if I miss their call, I would have to call them back and they wouldn't pick it up. So that’s obviously kind of frustrating. It would have been okay if American Home Shield had been golden throughout the entire process. But them putting me on hold for a total of an hour and a half makes things rough. During those times when Airboss would have to come over and check it out, I worked from home. And the more times that they have to come out, that means that more times I’m out of the office and out of work times. I would have them rather give a thorough inspection of the fridge to begin by saying what the exact issue is. It just seems like Airboss, as a service provider has just been poor. And that kind of reflects poorly on American Home Shield.

My friend told me in February she used American Home Shield and they had replaced her air conditioner, the plumbing under her house and something else. Then I went online and checked AHS and filled out the information and got it started. And I was surprised when they were so willing to cover our air conditioner that didn't cool when we turned it on after the winter. We submitted a claim and they sent a tech out. The tech then wrote the work order and a couple of days later, sent a service guy out. He needed to wait on the part to come in and we had it going for two days. Right after that, it started being a 100 degrees here. It was amazing. The whole experience I had with them was nothing like I've ever had before. I didn't feel they were giving me the third degree about why I needed their service.

The contractor came out and was on time. He was very informative, letting me know everything he was doing and what was going on. He added some Freon and adjusted some levels. I had to pay but it was a good experience. Now, everything is running as it should.

I've owned this house for two years and I've had five claims on different things around the house. American Home Shield’s customer service has been great and I haven’t had any problems any time I've ever dealt with them. When I called AHS for a claim on my AC, the company they sent came out the next day. The service guy has been out here before and he was a great person to work with so I told them that. He was a little bit late but he called to tell me he was behind and kept me updated on everything. Everything was fixed and it’s all working now.

The igniter on our dryer was dead so it wouldn’t heat. We submitted a claim and it was very nice. The AHS reps have always been great and they're very helpful. The contractor came in, worked on the unit and said he has to order the part, which will be about seven days. Seven days later, my husband called the contractor and they said they can set us up for the next two days. They weren’t the friendliest group, but they replaced the igniter and got the job done. I like American Home Shield and we always recommend them.

We had just bought a house and we've been told by our real estate agent that it would be a good idea to have the locks changed so that way, we knew who had the keys to our home. The week right after we moved in, I called in to American Home Shield and the lady who I spoke to about putting the work order in was very pleasant and efficient. I was told that it might take a couple of business days. However, within an hour and a half, someone had called me from where they put the work order in. Then, the locksmith was able to come out within two hours and change out all the locks. He was very courteous. He was also amazing like the company that sent him. The entire experience was wonderful.

One of the sprayer hose came loose under the sink so it was leaking all under the sink whenever you turned on the thing. The pressure was almost like the water was bouncing out of the faucet and that was my first clue that something was wrong. I submitted a claim with AHS and the contractor was out there the next morning after I filed, so I couldn’t be happier. The tech that came was very good and professional. He was quick to respond and he texted me me that he was on his way to another job but he could take care of me at the time if I was available. I said I was and he came right over. It was perfect timing. He fixed it in a few minutes and told me what was the problem.
I also had an air-conditioning issue and that took two days. I wasn’t really happy with that because living in Texas, air conditioning is the number one priority here. But at least AHS got it fixed. I wish they would get a different air-conditioning company because I’m not really impressed with the air-conditioning company they’re currently using. About once a year, I file a claim for my air conditioning and this particular company has worked on it three times in the past four years.
AHS had another company that worked on my AC unit and they were more responsive, much faster, and much more thorough. In fact, it was the original company they had that told me that I needed a new breaker. And since it was not covered, I went ahead and paid for it. But the fact that they found it and nobody else had, I was impressed. Other than that, as long as your issue isn't your air conditioner, AHS is great. I have been with them since I moved into the house and so far, their reps have been very good and very responsive.

My fridge wasn't getting cold and one of the oven's burners wasn't working and the door fell out. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. I spoke with a rep and the interaction went well. They asked for the best time and then they submitted a schedule. It was quick and easy. Exclusive Appliance Repair gave a window, went out there and were great. They were professional and got the job done. That was the most important part. They fixed the door thing really quickly and for the fridge, they had to order a part and had that fixed the following week. American Home Shield is worth it if the new house you bought has appliances in it and you're not sure if they're gonna be functioning 100%.

It was very easy to go on American Home Shield's site and to put stuff in. And I was called within 20 minutes which was amazing. I had the contractor come out for a two-problem reason and unfortunately, both of them were very easy, simple, and dumb. We just had the house power washed and something fell into the air condition but it made its way through. The other issue was a switch in the garage that nobody knew about. The tech who came out told us to do something and two minutes later, he was gone. So, there were no repairs needed and it was a couple hundred bucks for nothing. I was very happy with how fast the guys at American Home Shield were. However, AHS sent two guys who didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing. I understand it's trial and error, but they were dumbfounded and couldn't figure out the issue. They left saying they were going to think about it and then come back. I was unsettled, but a week later, I had to reach out to the company and find out what was going on. So it never was fixed. I called Home Shield and they sent another service person out there and he saw it and he said, "We’ll order a part." It took a few days. He came back out with the part that they ordered
My old dishwasher is so outdated. The part didn’t fit so he tried it and everything, but it wouldn’t work at all. Other than that, I didn’t have a bad experience. It just took so long. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and their contractor, SAP Plumbing, did the job. The technician tried to do everything he could without having to cut holes in the wall. And then he cut as few as he could and used a camera to try to find everything, to not have to rip more of my wall up than he had to. He took pictures, showed them to me and explained everything. They found out that there was no leak even though we were hearing the water. Somebody had jerry-rigged some piping and it’s not causing any water damage. I think the people who lived there before did their own little fix-up there and it’s not causing any problems. The thing is, normally when there’s a leak, you can feel the difference in the wall because they get soggy or it gets warm. But there was never any of that, It was just weird. The technician told me that AHS was going to call me back to fix the two holes in the wall because that was covered.
However, I’ve not heard back from anyone. I'm honestly terrible about checking my voicemail, but I’ve not received any emails either. This is my first time having to do anything like this with them so I don’t know how all of it works. It’s probably just some form of misunderstanding or miscommunication. We’re giving them the benefit of the doubt. Other than that, everything has been great. We’ve never had to have any other follow-ups before. We got everything situated quickly with American Home Shield. And every time I called in, it was easy to get the people out there. We had a plumbing issue with the shower and I had to call American Home Shield to submit the claim because I’ve never been able to use the online thing. It never lets me go through for some reason. It always makes me call. Then I have to sit down trying to get through to someone forever. But the plumber who came out was the same plumber who had done a bunch of jobs that I had placed before. He's awesome so we always ask for him. But we had gone through three plumbers before we got him.
One of the first jobs that we had American Home Shield come and try to do was an absolute nightmare. The plumber said that we had to cut a massive hole in our wall and after he did that, he said he couldn't do the job anymore. The plumber that we use now, pretty much exclusively, said that he didn't need that at all because he could do everything through the tank. This plumber has been great and I would recommend him to all my friends. He says straight up if he can do the job or not.
We also had to try and get American Home Shield to get someone to repair the wall but they only did the minimum amount. First, I had to get a contractor out to cut a hole in the wall. American Home Shield paid for the drywall and for a very rough finish. But I had to pay for the rest of the finishing and the repainting. American Home Shield didn’t wanna come to the party at all even though the problem was because one of their plumbers didn’t assess the job properly. And from the time that I first called to the actual time of the final lick of paint getting put on, it was 10 months. Dealing with American Home Shield has been a painful experience. In fact, when we had another plumbing issue, I called another plumber to come out instead of getting American Home Shield even though we’ve paid for the insurance. I didn't wanna deal with how long the job was gonna take and I needed to have that done.

I have been with American Home Shield since November. So far, I only had two claims and I had a good experience with the first claim. I submitted it online on their website. The guy from Sears who came out was good. He showed up first thing in the morning and fixed my appliance. He's professional and knowledgeable. However, I'm going through a bad situation right now with a claim. I had called about my septic tank to get it pumped and that was a Sunday.
Then I got a call from Mr. Rooter Septic and Plumbing that Wednesday and they told me they'd be out Friday. I waited Friday and then I got a call that day telling me they cancelled and then they would come out Saturday before 12. Me and my wife sat around all day, waiting, but never heard from anyone. So I kept calling. Then, they finally showed up about 4 o’clock without the septic truck. They just sent somebody and he said they're gonna do this, this, and this, and they will be here first thing Sunday morning to take care of everything.
So then we sat around all day Sunday but they never showed up. They never called me either and they never answered my phone. It was just a complete waste of a weekend. We've filed five different claims with American Home Shield. We bought a 20-year-old house in Charleston last summer and the air conditioner is gone. American Home Shield has been extremely responsive and very good in sending contractors out. But with the people that they hire, it’s always one thing breaks and then something else breaks. For example, they replaced the switch, and then the next week, there’s something else that goes bad. When they go there, they do a patchwork and put a band-aid on a dam that’s falling apart. Also, American Home Shield sent different AC companies and some of them didn't even have a telephone number to call so you can't talk to them and discuss. It’s between the AC company and the insurance company.
American Home Shield would also not replace the AC until somebody tells them that the unit is gone. Of course, whoever goes there is not gonna tell them that because they want to come and charge them to fix it. I told American Home Shield that it's gone and we need to take the cost half and half. I also said that they're wasting money and effort by sending people. But they told me that unless somebody from the people they've sent says that the AC is totally shot, they will not replace it. So, they're gonna waste money and my time and patience until it's really bad, and then they'll replace the AC. American Home Shield must have the contractors be more responsible.

Navigating through their website was easy, but trying to talk with somebody sucked. There was no chat line on there and a lot of the questions that I needed to ask weren’t answered, so I had to call and when I did, it took at least 45 minutes to get a response. Then, nine times out of ten, the people who answered the phone didn’t speak English very well and I had to repeat stuff over and over again.
It's a hit or miss with AHS. I’ve had them for a long time, but when something breaks down, they spend a lot of time putting duct tape on it instead of fixing or replacing it and there's the hassle and the fiasco, like with my AC unit. It smells like mold and mildew, and it always leaks water, and it should have been replaced a long time ago because my electric bill sucks and it doesn’t stay cold. The repair guys kept coming out repeatedly for work orders for it, and that was rather frustrating. But the contractor, Judd’s AC and Refrigeration, that worked on my AC was amazing. The contractor who came was prompt and very courteous. He was also very quick in diagnosing and fixing the problem. The contractors have been great but American Home Shield itself sucks. The disposal was my third rodeo with AHS. And it seems as though they always try to fix the problem, but if it's a very high-dollar item, they make up excuses and don’t wanna do it. There's never a replacement and it's always patching something up, patching it up, and patching it up. And if you belong to them for a while and have given $59 every month, by two years you can pay for several items.
When my air conditioner went out, I was given $700 but it was for the air handler. They said that they had given me the difference of the air handler. My house is 3,600 square feet and I needed two units for it. I had to put two brand new units but they only gave me about ¾ of what it cost. Plus, when you change the air handler, you need to change the condenser outside too and they weren’t willing to do that. They were just willing to patch it up and there was gonna be problem after problem.
When I was in my other home, I had a refrigerator problem. And they never fixed it. They would always patch it up and I always had to give them $75. It seemed to me that that’s the business. They had to come out here and get the deductible. If they say they're gonna do something, they need to live up to it. If they fixed the problem the first time, then that’s fine. But if they come two or three times with the same problem, just replace the item. I had a bad experience with them back in the late 90’s and I joined them back again. I had gotten them because it makes me and my wife feel good. But if there was something else out there, I would absolutely cancel. But I'm still holding on to them.

When I called AHS the first time, a rep gave me a list of contractors and told me that I could pick off from that. Once I found a company, I discarded that list. However, that company never came and never called back. Finally, AHS cancelled the order and set me up with someone else. Then I called in and told the lady that the first two vendors referred to us had a terrible rating when I googled them. It’s my house and my stuff, and I don’t want someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing or has bad ratings coming out and working on them. So I asked her to give me the list of people that could do the service. But this time, the lady said that they do not give out that information. She then said that I could contact the companies on my own, but they would only cover their list of providers. I told her that I understood that, but I just wanted to pick which contractor from their list to put me with.
She had no idea what I was talking about and she wouldn't transfer me to anybody else, and we had a little bit of a language barrier. If the person doesn't understand what you're asking, they should be courteous enough to move you on to someone else. When I asked for a supervisor or somebody that I could talk to, she just said that she understood what I was asking.
We finally got someone that would come out for the plumbing and electrical issue with our pool. They fixed the plumbing and the electrical piece. But the whole point of having them replace the leak was so that no air could be sucked in. They took care of the visible leak. But it’s still sucking in air from somewhere because they just repaired the part instead of replacing it. Clearly, something wasn’t done right because the jets were still having air bubbles come out. We need to have the company come back and finish resolving it. But I'm not paying another $75 to have someone come back for the same job that I already paid to have done.
American Home Shield is not a terrible company. They’ve been nice to me. The first lady I talked to was amazing. She was super informative and helpful. She didn’t make me feel like she had to take another call and got to phone me immediately and she answered all my questions. However, the list of providers that I got from them do not have very good ratings and when they come out and do a half-off to a job, you have to pay if they’re gonna come back and finish it. And we already paid $800 for the policy. So overall, I would not refer AHS at this point.

I was travelling and my family never told me. When I came back, I decided to follow up on that and AHS said the warranty for six months had already expired. So I had to pay for another $75 and the tech came to look at the microwave. He said a fuse blew up. When the new transformer was put in, there was also a change of fuse.
The tech came back in about a week’s time to replace the fuse but then the fuse blew up again. That was when he decided it wasn't fixable. He had to get AHS to give me a new one then he installed it. But I have Samsung everything in the house and I was given a Kenmore. That caused a whole mess up of appliances in my house. Nonetheless, having a warranty is very much valuable. I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my water heater online and the website is straightforward, easy to navigate and put in your information. The water heater was making a loud boom sound so clearly we knew that something was wrong and then all of a sudden it stopped giving us hot water. So the technician came out and said that, "Oh, because of a connection of something on top of the water heater, debris got in there and that's what causes the water heater to malfunction" which didn’t make a lot of sense to me. That’s all the details he gave me.
He said, "We have a special on new water heater because you kind of need a new water heater and we ask special on that." I said, “What do you mean the connection? Because the water that’s in there was put in by an American Home Shield contractor. So you’re telling me that American Home Shield is not gonna cover something with my water heater and if something is wrong with the connection?" So now we have a problem. This guy was not really trying to hear that. He was just trying to sell me the special on him putting in a new water heater and us having to pay for it because he didn’t even give American Home Shield a report yet and he’s saying, “They’re not gonna cover it.” It was really bad.
I’m actually still dealing with this. But I have young kids in the home and I’m now dealing with having cold water. We’re going into the second week of not having hot water and this is an emergency situation because I have young kids in my home so I had another plumber to put in the water heater. I spoke back with American Home Shield so they sent another contractor out because once I explained the damage, they went back and look in their records that indeed AHS did put that water heater out and it was one of their contractors so if there was something wrong, it wasn’t us. The contractor that put it in was no longer contracted with American Home Shield so they sent out another contractor. They came and looked at it and said, “Well, we can fix it. We just need to order parts.”
All of a sudden again, it can be fixed but the first contractor who came out said we needed a new water heater. So in order to fix it, they had to order these parts. We're still having cold water during all this time. I was microwaving water to feed my kid. It's ridiculous. I was like, "Well, I can’t wait any longer. I have to get a new water heater." That’s when I had another licensed plumber to come in and give me a new water heater. American Home Shield was like, "We're only gonna pay for the parts that the second person said." I said, "No way. You guys gonna pay for the whole water heater." I have a new water heater but I still haven’t heard back from AHS. They sent me a check $412 for parts that would have fixed the old water heater but I will not cash that check because they need to pay me for what I paid for the water heater.
I’m really surprised at how this whole water heater thing turned out because we’ve been with American Home Shield since I’ve had my house in 1999 and I've had great service with them prior to this. Especially, once they acknowledged and knew that, "Yes, it was our contractor who put in your water heater that's now faulty" and they knew it was an emergency situation. I have kids in the house, and all I have is cold water. I’ve had good experience with AHS and would have recommended it to anyone especially new home buyers, even existing home buyers. It’s worth it. But with this past experience, I don't know if I would renew my contract. You may wanna look at another home warranty program.
Good afternoon Stacy,

When my heat pump went out, I called American Home Shield and the rep was very professional and straight to the point. They sent an agent out and he diagnosed it and American Home Shield took it from there. But I didn’t care for the first one that came out. AHS sent a backup person to come and take a look and so, the second one came and reassessed the claim. I explained to them and they talked with AHS. They put a brand-new unit and the performance has been great. AHS is the best in the market and I’m gonna stay with them. It was a satisfying experience, they were easy to deal with and I’ve recommended them to a lot of friends.
Good afternoon Kyle,
I would like to thank you for sharing your feedback to American Home Shield regarding the replacement of your heat pump. I am glad the second contractor was able to provide a better diagnosis and get the unit replaced. I hope that you continue to enjoy the service that we provide.

We purchased AHS for our 30 year old home three years ago. Consistently, every summer one or both of our ac units blew out a compressor or had a freon leak. On 6/10/18, our downstairs unit started making loud banging noise. It was cooling fine but obviously the noise was a concern. Technician from Iceman came out on 6/12, proceeded to disconnect the breaker because the coils were frozen and turned the ac to “heat” to “warm the coils”. He failed to advise our adult son what he had done and just said he would return Fri to finish the job. When we got home, the downstairs temp was 98. Ouside temp 106. Fri Iceman was a no-show and AHS claimed their network was down so they couldn’t address our concerns.
The following TUESDAY, Moore AC came out and advised we had a freon leak but he wasn’t authorized to repair it by AHS just assess the issue. On Wed, AHS once again claimed computer issues but they would submit ticket to address my concerns. Today, 8 days later, Fri 6/22, 112 outside and Top Notch AC said I need new air handler, compressor, thermostat and circuit breaker. Since it’s Fri, I shouldn’t expect to hear if AHS authorizes replacement until next week! At $58 a month for 3 years, I could’ve almost bought a new ac and not dealt with dolt contractors AHS sent. Extreme heat warnings in Phx next 4 days and AHS is useless to help rectify the matter.

I have had a home warranty with AHS for 12 years now. Up until yesterday, I would have recommended the product to friends and family. I will no longer do this. Our AC broke in 90 degree weather, and it will take a week for a service contractor to even come out and look at it. I spent half a day chasing down the service request to get a contractor assigned, and was told several different reasons why it was assigned, was not assigned, could not be assigned. In the interim, the service provider could not book the appointment, and was filling up and pushing ours out.
Calling back was on hold for long time, was told the system was updating and was hung up on, and finally asked to be transferred to a supervisor and never was. The Contractor had to call to finally get the ticket assigned. When I called back later and then used the online chat feature to ask how to escalate or complain, I was told complaints can only be made in writing to a PO Box. In my opinion that is terrible customer service, and a lack of care for your customer.
Good morning Kimberly,

Contractor ATR General Services has been out to our home three times. The initial visit was May 5, 2018 (45 days ago), attempting to locate leak(s) in our air condition unit. Every time I call to schedule a follow up appointment my call goes to voicemail. On one occasion they returned my call on a Sunday (a non business day for them). Per Yelp this company has a 1.5 star rating. We purchased our home warranty from American Shield trusting they would vet all their contractors. Our unit is 30 years old, something this old cannot be patched up anymore. There is a leak the ATR General Service contractors cannot find -- why not replace it! The customer service rep was helpful to an extent. During our call the rep yawned which give the impression that she was tired or my compliant bored her. I will not be renewing our contract with American Home Shield.
Good morning Ramona,

What a joke. My ac air handler unit is 30 yrs old. (They don't sell the coils for it anymore) so they want to replace it for an out of pocket expense to me of $1200. The ac unit is 20 yrs old. So if I fix the air handler unit then the compressor goes out, which is on its last leg, that will be another nightmare with AHS. Instead of doing the common sense and good business practice of replacing the whole system they want me to cough up a ton of money instead of them replacing a unit that is only going to cost their customer money time and time again. I have requested a cash out on this and was (unofficially informed they may offer me $400 to $500 to pay it out) when if I have to pay a new air handler unit it's at least $2000 with labor etc.
The last message they read by me: their response was they going to contact me to see about resolving this matter. HAHAHAHA. Avoid me and no contact. I should have went with Select Home Warranty or any other company. Maybe I wouldn't have been ripped off so bad so fast. $75 service call to tell me I need to spend another $1200. What a joke and I've still got months to go on my contract and have buy a new AC unit.
Who in their right mind would put that kind of money into something that old. If they are unwilling to pay for a unit that has one part 20 yrs old and another part 30 years old, well if you have any common sense find another company. Long as they can make parts if even out of clay, they are not getting you a new AC unit. I believe they only replaced 3-5 units out 2000 calls for AC problems. Look at the numbers and see what side of the pyramid scheme they're in on. THEY ARE A RIP OFF AND ARE COMPLETE FOR PROFIT SCREW THE CUSTOMER COMPANY.
Good morning Shawn,

I've used my AHS warranty quite a bit. Though everything was good with the house when we bought it, all of a sudden there was a problem here and there. One time, my pool pump stopped working. I called and put a work order in to American Home Shield. Thereafter, their contractors came out and fixed it. Still, submitting my claim to them online is easy as I don't have to wait for somebody to pick up. They send me a confirmation text afterward to let me know that someone has gotten my claim or when their contractors are coming out.
Another time, we had a ceiling fan that wasn't working properly. I had a guy come out and that took a week or so. At the time, I guessed they were pretty busy. But when the contractor came out, everything was okay. There was also a time when I had a plumbing guy come out as well. Overall, it was nice that we only have to pay the $75 for someone to come out. Some of the repairs may have been cheaper, but it was easier for me to submit it to American Home Shield. I'm really happy I bought my AHS Warranty. I have 3 years of service and protection and I will definitely be renewing afterward. I recommend this company.

I could find somebody and then go through a whole process of me paying them and getting my money back, but it would involve the contractor that I hired. I had one complaint a year or so ago about a faucet that was installed and the man didn't help me out at all. When I bought the house for my daughter and her children, it had a Trane Air Conditioner in it. Then, American Home Shield replaced it with what looked like a cheap jukebox. And when that unit went out last summer, we had a lot of problems where AHS had to send somebody out to work on it. The people who showed up to do the service were sloppy and when they put the air conditioner back together, they didn’t put all the screws in and lost some. Then I decided to replace it with another Trane unit for which I spent a little over $6000. I know that six years down the road, AHS will have to replace it again but they will go with something that is a whole lot cheaper to replace it with and that's the thing that bothers me the most.
I have thought about dropping AHS several times and I didn’t like some of the people that they sent out because they didn’t know what they were doing. Several years ago, one of the breaker boxes kept blowing in the house. AHS sent an electrician out who said that it had two small breaker boxes in there. But the house was built back in the 60s and there had been no trouble with the thing that I had there for a long time. To make a long story short, I paid about $80 to get a qualified electrician out and he said that the first guy was wrong. What I got is a 3 amp but the guy that AHS sent out put in a two amp which wasn’t big enough to carry the load. So, the electrician went ahead and put in another 3 amp in there which cost me more money. Other than that, I recently called AHS because the air conditioning unit was low on Freon. They sent out Coast Mechanical, LLC and since then, my daughter and her children were so glad it was cooling again.

They have always been good and courteous and it was always the same contractor that comes. He was very professional and came within the same day I requested online. The contractor did a whole analysis on everything, looked at the problem, gave some suggestions on how to fix it and ordered the parts. And when the parts came back, he promptly returned and fixed the air conditioning 'cause being without air in Florida is kinda hot, so he was always present. However, it took a couple of visits because there were other issues with the unit but the contractor saw it through completion.
I'm sure to renew the warranty next year and if anyone would have more than seven appliances, I'd recommend to get AHS. The air conditioning alone could've been thousands of dollars to have fixed. Not to mention the time also to find a contractor and the out-of-pocket to get all that done.

We have three air conditioning units and one of them that controls the upstairs of our house wasn’t cooling, even though the fan was running. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for that. Then I spoke to someone from Airtronics on the phone to schedule. And then I spoke with the technician and he called when he was on his way to my residence. It was the first time that Airtronics had responded to an HVAC issue with our house, but they came promptly and the communication was very good. Their technician was very professional and very experienced. He knew exactly what the problem was, diagnosed it very quickly, and he replaced the capacitor expediently. He also explained what he was doing and it was easy for me to follow along. He was fantastic. And since the repair, the AC has worked fine. This is, by far, one of the best experiences I've had with HVAC contractors.
I've had issues in the past where the contractors that AHS sent have been less than honest, claiming a huge issue and complete replacement of my HVAC system as an example. I complained to AHS about the contractor and was looking for feedback as to ensure that that contractor wouldn't do the same thing to other people. But I received no feedback at all. After that bad experience with them, I looked at their online reviews and found out that the company had been receiving negative feedback for quite some time and AHS continued to use them. Anyone looking into AHS should read the contract early to know exactly what they’re covering. Also, even if you have upgraded the nice appliances, they will only replace one with a very bare-bones low-quality appliance and even if you offer to pay the upgrade, that’s not an option with their contract.

I had a problem with my refrigerator and washing machine. I initially filed my claims online on my phone with American Home Shield for both appliances which is what I do 99% of the time. But I was having a hard time doing that so I called my claims in. It became confusing with the whole service call from start to end. AHS probably have two different calls based on two different appliances, so, even if my claims went to the same place, there was a lot of confusion about what people were coming out for. To me, it seemed like a simple thing but it wound up becoming a much more difficult one.
American Home Shield sent a guy out the first time to work with me on my refrigerator. He argued with me about what was covered in my policy but I told him that I called AHS, they made the appointment, they sent you him, and I paid the service fee. Then he wanted me to start paying cash upfront. I didn't know what he was up to but every red flag in my head went off. Then, halfway through, he told me he was leaving. But I told him that he had to finish the job. Then he told me that parts were missing from my ice maker and I had to deal with it. But I'm in a wheelchair and I couldn't do that. And my husband doesn't do mechanical.
This technician also seemed to get emotional and very passionately upset about the whole thing. When he was arguing with me, I told him that all he had to do was finish his little report then American Home Shield will get back with me and I’ll handle whatever issues there are with them. It has always been that way and if there was an issue, I'd call American Home Shield and it was always been settled. So, I had extremely positive reactions with my American Home Shield contract but I had a very bad reaction with this contractor.
I called American Home Shield afterwards, told them that I was very upset with what happened, and that I didn't want those people out in my home again. Just in Time sent in new people to fix the two units and they were sweet and professional. I worked with Just in Time the last couple of times and they’ve been amazing. Apparently, the first contractor must have taken the missing parts out and put them on top of the drawer. One of the guys from Just in Time found them and fixed the problem. He even brought me a bottle of water when he saw me struggling to get up and that was the extra step they didn’t have to do, by any means.
I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years now and I've tried to sell them to three of my neighbors. Having AHS is almost like having a savings account. You pay them $70 every month and eventually, you’re gonna use it. The warranty is a security blanket and something that you hang on to. Every once in a while, I’ve had an issue which was not done 100% to my satisfaction but after 20 years, I’ve had a lot of claims that have gone through and that's nice. I’ve also had the thing where the air conditioner was mostly covered but if you have $1000, you’d pay for yourself.

I am very pleased with American Home Shield. On and off, I have been with them for over 30 years. Recently, I had an air conditioning issue. I purchased a new home and the AC was not serviced properly when it was installed. It was undercharged and it didn’t have sufficient Freon. I submitted my claim and it was seamless. I initially called because it was a home buyer’s policy and not a consumer policy, and I wanted to know if I had to wait 30 days with a new purchase or if it was active. I was pleased to hear that I could use it that same day. The representative explained to me my coverage and I upgraded my policy to the premium coverage. The rep was courteous, very knowledgeable about the product and also very concerned with trying to get me somebody as soon as possible.
I had multiple contractors who came out and they were all very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They did clean and neat work. Unfortunately, it turns out that the AC has a manufacturer warranty issue and I've been having a nightmare with the warranty rep that they’ve been sending me. It’s been on and off for two weeks now. The fellow keeps changing the arrival time and I’ve not been able to get it completely finished. If I could use Home Shield’s contractor to do the work, I would. But because everything is under warranty, that was a hurdle that I wasn’t ready for. I also had a dishwasher leak and I called on that as well with Home Shield, and that also turned out to be a manufacturer warranty issue. Nevertheless, I’m a huge advocate of American Home Shield. Whenever I have a co-worker stating that they’re gonna buy a home, I tell them to make sure that they have AHS.

We bought the house and when I turned on the AC unit, there was water leaking out into the garage from the furnace area so we called American Home Shield. They sent Comfort King out. They came out a few times and these guys are funny. They wanted me to cut off part of my ceiling in the garage, take all the door frame off and I’m like, “What are we doing this for, for a drip pan?” They said the drip pan was bad and was gonna have to be replaced.
I talked to a friend of mine who has done AC forever and he’s retired now. I said, “Wait. Why did they want me to cut part of my ceiling and door frame out for?” He tells me what should be done and he said those contractors were just trying to replace my entire unit when it doesn’t need to be replaced. Another contractor we spoke with in between talking with AHS said, “Oh, this is a scam that was going on for years. They will tell you, you needed all these repairs. It replaces your entire unit. Then they will take the paperwork done to the city and claim the energy efficient upgrade in their name using your address and get a $5,000 to $6,000 rebate from the city."
He also said these scams shut down a whole lot of air-conditioning repair companies and the contractor was trying to run the same scam. But I’ve had AHS in the past when I own a house in Texas and they were great. So I don’t think it’s American Home Shield but the contractor himself. I think it’s, number one, the area because it’s a military town so the contractors think they can just rip the military off all day long. According to the city of Lawton this has been going on for quite a bit so I’m on guard.
The other contractor that came by for the second opinion one was great. He said everything my buddy said, “Oh, yeah. All you have to do is replace the drip pan and you need a condenser too.” And he was in and out of here in 20 minutes. The air conditioner is still not fixed because he gotta order the condenser. He’s gonna make the drip pan and I’m not his only customer. But he said, "I get a lot of this second opinion." Somebody else is not doing their job. So I don’t think it’s American Home Shield because they’re a massive company. They can’t go by every contractor in every town and spy on them.

I was having problems with my air conditioning unit. It wasn't getting cold so American Home Shield sent Airmax and they ruled that it was the compressor. We had to wait a week for the compressor to come in. And when the compressor came in, they came out to fix the compressor. It was not even by the weekend and it was completely out again. Nothing was working. So I called back and told them, "Hey, my AC is not working again, they just came out and fixed the compressor." When they came back out to assess, he said, "Oh, your fan is gone now. We have to repair the fan." And I said, "Okay. Well, is that something you could do because you have noticed when you guys came out and assessed it the first time, that if the compressor was going, the fan was gonna go too."
So he came back out and said, "Yeah, I have this on my truck." I said, "Because I can't tolerate it, I waited a whole week for you guys to come out to fix it the first time. Then only for it to go back out within like four days." So then he fixed it and they told me there was a $75 service charge. I said, "That's not right. Because it was due to the unit not working." I also said, "So, are you're gonna be coming back every four days if something else goes wrong with the unit? That's something you should've caught when you came out to assess it, right? Why am I being charged another $75 because that's the same $75 I have to pay."
It's not that he shouldn't get paid for replacing the fan. I said, "That's between you and home warranty. That's not between you and me." The only thing I was supposed to do was pay $75 which I paid the first time he came out. I said, "Now, that's the same problem." He said, "Well, it's a different problem." I said I was telling them something was going on with the unit and all of that is tied together, like the compressor and fan.
The contractor fixed it and said I gotta call the home warranty first to tell them what was going on and that he was gonna replace it. I said, "Okay." So then I called home warranty, I said that I shouldn't have to pay a $75 service charge and she said, "No. Don't worry about it. You don't have to pay that. It's between us and the contractor." So I said, "Okay, fine." So then I got home and got a bill in the mail for $75. So I called and said, "Hey, I'm getting this bill for $75 charge that I shouldn't be charged for that second call that they had to come back out to fix my unit."
The rep said he was sending it up to get expedited to get the $75 off. And everything is good right now. David the technician that came out, was great. I have no problems with them. It's just that confusion that came in with the $75 service charge. I also would really like for them to have some more 24-hour places for emergency purposes, like for an air condition unit because it's 100 degrees outside. No parts have to be ordered some time but I just feel like sometimes, it needs to be expedited a little faster for the customers.

The second was when I had a problem with my garbage disposal. The guy who came out was very positive and said he could give me the one that he had on the truck but that I would be calling him back in a week because the thing was not very good. So, I paid a little extra for more powerful garbage disposal and the thing has been working like a charm.

We moved into our home in May, and the icemaker on our refrigerator went out and so we put in a claim with American Home Shield, and they had a local appliance repair person come out and take a look at it. And he replaced the icemaker, but there was another sensor that was wrong, so he had replaced it and left, and then it continued not to make ice. So then we followed up on this. He came out, and he replaced the sensor, and then it started making ice. And then within this past week, it stopped making ice again.
So I have no idea what's up with that, but that reflects less on American Home Shield and more on the contractor, which I don’t even necessarily think it's their fault because it takes a little bit to make ice and figure out what's wrong with it. But as far as the process of it, AHS has been fine and prompt, too. The price point is definitely worth it too. And I appreciate the fact that I've only paid for the service once. Even though the product didn’t wind up working, I haven't had to pay for any sort of follow-up services to the product because the initial work clearly wasn’t actually completed. So I appreciated their no underhanded dealings there like with follow-up charges and things of that nature.
However, having to go through the middleman of American Home Shield is necessary because you have somebody holding the warranty but it gets inconvenient when you're juggling AHS and the contractor. But it’s not so inconvenient that I wouldn't recommend it. I would totally recommend any new homebuyer getting a home warranty and using American Home Shield for that.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online for my dishwasher. However, I won't be using the website anymore. I don't have the choices I have if I called by phone. The technician who came out was exceptional. He found glass in the impeller. The impeller is part of the system that flushes the water out of the machine. It is nothing other than a blade that travels fast and it pushes the water out. In this particular case, a piece of a broken glass had gotten into the impeller. When it got there, it jammed it, so the impeller would not operate at all. So far, I'm happy with my experience with American Home Shield and I've already told my friends about them. They take out your worry.

I’ve had American Home Shield for over 20 years with several homes that we've owned, and they always resolve my issues. When I speak to them, they ask me what my issues are and I let them know, and they take care of it. They also tell me which company will be calling or if they were to do anything else. They’ve always been super prompt with anything that I’ve called for. The call is within 24 hours and someone comes out within 24 hours to fix the issue. I had a problem a while back with my washer, and AHS sent a tech within the next day. The contractors have been pretty good also. Most recently, the kids moved the thermostat and it froze the line, so the techs came out. They said there was nothing to fix, and they just turned it off for a few hours and said it would defrost the line.

We've always had a good experience with American Home Shield. My husband recently filed a claim online for our air conditioning unit. Their contractor came out on a Saturday and fixed it. We didn't even have to wait over the weekend. So, that was really good and that made us happy. AHS always got back to us quickly. And the contractors have all been really good. They'd let me know what they were doing and what was needed to be done. And if we needed to get any other parts, they'd let me know what was going on. Overall, they've done a really good job in repairing what they need to do.

I've been with American Home Shield since October and I had a very poor experience with them. Submitting the claim was painless and easy. It was very quick and straightforward. The food trap or the little indent in the bottom of the dishwasher was holding water, so it wasn’t draining completely. I thought that it needed to be snaked out. But the contractors did not do anything to fix problem and said, “That’s normal. That’s what's supposed to happen.” So I felt like I wasted my money for nothing.

I told American Home Shield that the AC did not work and they sent somebody over. The contractor was working three hours fixing it, and after three hours that he left, an hour later it broke. And the problem was we have a baby here, and the baby was sweating, and I had to put ice on his clothing. And I called them and they said, “Okay. You have to call the company." They were going to send somebody in two days. I said, “I need somebody now.” Two days later they sent two guys. The guy said, “Well, I need to order a part.” I asked, “How long will it take?” He said, “At least 10 days, eight days minimum.” So, I called my company and I said, “Look, you know what I’m canceling you. You’re the worst company ever.” And I did.
The service is really bad. The service is extremely bad. If you have to call they put you on hold for an hour. It happened to me once that they put me on hold for an hour and they never called me back. I hang up. I have never seen a company that is so poorly managed. I’m in business myself if I would’ve done this to my client they would fire me in a heartbeat.

The guy was good, but when he first came here, he was too quick to indicate what the problem was and it wasn’t, so he ended up having to come back out here two weeks later. If he would’ve spent more time the first time he was here, perhaps he wouldn’t have to come out a second time. But he repaired the unit and it has been working great ever since. The faucet in our bathroom upstairs was leaking, and submitting the claim with Home Shield online was easy. But online, they ask what's wrong but not the details about what's wrong. We fell against our faucet and so, it twisted a little bit. It was okay for a long time and then it started leaking. And the technician came out and he took the covering off and then replaced the middle part. And it was really quick and easy for him. He was gone after half an hour. And then, when I went to look at it, which I should have done before he left, the shield that goes around the faucet that skids up against the tub didn't meet the wall anymore. There was a fourth of an inch distance. So when the water came down the wall, it went right down in between. I fussed about that a little bit and I called and talked to Home Shield and I explained my concern. And they sent another guy out.
The second guy came out and he fixed it. So now, it's flush against the wall again, which is nice. But it seems like it's not working right still. And it's not the way it was before we had the problem with it. Instead of being able to turn the faucet a certain amount, it's like it has to turn twice as much now. I can feel that there's water still coming out of the tub. It's not dripping, but it's wet when I put my hands underneath. So I figured I'd like to get the faucets replaced. Overall, we've had Home Shield for 22 years and they've been great. Everyone that's come out has been very professional. And if I have a problem, I know that I can contact the company and they're gonna have someone here that's going to be out to fix my problem and it’s always fast and efficient.

Also, they sent out a text and emails, so whatever automated service American Home Shield is using, works. They quickly provided the number of the contractor but the local contractor seemed to be slow to get back to us and I waited to hear back from them. We first filed an issue for service with American Home Shield on May 23rd. It is now June 21st and the issue still exists. AHS have dispatched 3 people all of whom either diagnosed the issues said they needed parts or a second opinion but then never came back. When I spoke to American Home Shield and the contractors they typically told me that AHS had canceled the "work order" and were assigning somebody else that would be capable of fixing the issue. So far nothing.
Trying to speak to customer services is somewhat of a joke. On average it takes about 20mins to be connected to someone. Each time I have gotten through I have to start the whole conversation again and explain the issues. It's impossible to speak to the same customer support agent so there is no continuity in service and no accountability or ownership of issues. On several occasions I've been cut-off which I'm fairly certain was intentional but obviously no way to know that for sure and then you have to start over from scratch and go to the back of the line again.
So frustrated with this company. I have a 5 month old child and I need to get this resolved as we are getting into the summer months. I've begged and begged for help from AHS but they don't seem to care. So disappointing. Will not be renewing my contract as it seems to be a waste of money that I could have just spent on having a contractor come and repair the AC myself.
Updated on 06/28/2018: After not knowing what else to do, I wrote a review on this site about American Home Shield as my AC has not been repaired in over 5 weeks at the time of my original review (6 weeks now). Countless long calls to a call center (At best you get to speak to somebody after 15 mins of holding) that promises to follow up and resolve your problems and NEVER delivers. Anyway after posting my review on here AHS respond with a stock response that I've seen them use for countless other poor reviews:
"I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience." So I thought finally, I am going to get to speak to a "Social Media Specialist" and somebody that might be concerned with my issues and help me get to a resolution and fix. Well that response was a week ago and guess what, no communication whatsoever. This pretty much sums up American Home Shield.

During the first week of May 2018, I placed an online request for electrical service. After numerous attempts to get an AHS contracted electrician to coordinate his schedule with mine-- and with some unreturned calls-- I finally decided to forget about it. Also, the AHS online order screen allows for a pre-payment or post service payment. I chose the post. Nevertheless, I was charged $133.44 as if the job had been completed. This began my trip into "nightmare service land". Numerous calls ensued where their people gave me the runarounds-- delays-- etc. Even after I fulfilled the AHS necessity (electrician documentation), I could not get any evidence that they had attempted to return my money. Finally, I had my bank dispute the charge.
Two weeks after this (6-21-18) I noted on my account screen that my charge was still showing as if I was still in debt to them. A call was made and again I was told it would take days for the correction (this time 5-7 business). That's when I asked them to send me to the cancellation department--- where I was informed the correction had been submitted and it would be 5-7 days. All this after numerous other similar assurances and even after a claims dispute through my bank. Trust me folks-- you can do better.
As a footnote, the only other time I used them was for a plumbing issue. Their contracted plumber had to be called out three times to repair a toilet (and his subsequent mistakes). Finally, I got another non-AHS plumber to correct his error (he had left the toilet on inserts making it unleveled to the floor)-- and it was costly. Again-- trust me folks -- find another home warranty company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I had a weird experience with my heating claim which I submitted online. The guy from the HVAC company American Home Shield sent out was seemingly very confident. I was having problems with the AC in one of my rooms. He opened the vents correctly but he did next to no work to redirect them. He took a look at the AC unit and determined that it needed a cleaning.
He talked me into their service plan and said that the only alternative is to go in and create a redirecting of their ductwork. However, I'm having concerns about that now because of the way the second guy who came acted. He wasn't as confident as the first guy. There was no follow up with them either. I'm a contractor myself so I kind of know what's going on. But they opted not to do anything so I just feel a little frustrated by that. He just made it sound like it was gonna be so much work and he was like in some big rush. He told me that he wasn't the guy who does the cleaning. But they did give me a better feel on the package that they had. It was about $500. They gave me a better deal on like the refrigerant.
They sent the second guy out the same day since he happened to be in the neighborhood. But I felt a taken advantage of after that like maybe I shouldn't have done that because it was a different guy. I paid that extra to have that stuff done. He cleaned out a coil and it was an acid wash. He was draining this thing and it was draining off the side of my roof. It was directly on to my patio making a huge mess and he was totally oblivious. The only thing that they did for my original submission was to change the flow and open the vent. The other stuff was completely separate. It's a little cooler now but it's not significantly cooler. It's definitely still warmer than it was so they really didn't solve the problem.
Good morning Ms. Bonner,
I understand your concerns with both contractors that service your air conditioner system. Per your review I am aware of the coil cleaning and duct work modification that was done that correct the ongoing issue. I would be glad to speak with you and get this resolved.

The garbage disposal went bad, rusted through, and started leaking. I filed a claim online and called American Home Shield. The initial plumber they sent out from Lubbock A-1 Plumbing was three hours late and in a big hurry. I explained to American Home Shield that instead of putting in a new fitting from day one, the plumber pushed it back in and said that that would be it. Those fittings couldn’t be reused and I questioned that, but he said that he got it to where it was not leaking. Then a week later, it was leaking again. So, the issue did not get fixed and the plumber damaged ourf RO water equipment. We got it shut off right now because it was still leaking but I was told that it wasn’t when the contractor came out to look at it again.
Also, when the plumber initially changed out the garbage disposal, he didn’t tighten one of the drain hoses properly and when we turned the dishwasher on, it blew water all over the floor, which all went in the wall. We had water everywhere when we got home and the wall is damaged now. I went ahead and made that repair myself. And we cleaned up the house and dried it out to the best of our ability. So, I am not very happy with A-1 Plumbing. They need to fix the RO water issue with the leak and they should have put a new fitting in.
I’ve already argued that point once and if American Home Shield will send me another plumber that pulls that kind of stunt, I’m done. There are other businesses that service consumers in the same way. But all these years that I’ve been with American Home Shield, I’ve never had an issue and everything they did on their end was 100%. They are still topnotch in my book, but being that the contractors are contracted under them, they should take the lead with the problem and make that right.

I had an issue with the air conditioner and I filed the claim online with American Home Shield. I tried to talk to somebody, but it took two hours to get to a live person. And then a service technician came in and made a recommendation that it was an electrical problem. The electrician came and then after he fixed the problem, the same air conditioner technician came in before the part was ordered. It took almost a week to have the part so it took 10 days for all this process and that was very disappointing. The response wasn't swift as I expected considering the 100-degree weather, which is very challenging when living in Texas. And I know if I haven't paid my monthly bill for 10 days, I'll be cut off. I'm a faithful customer, who pays my stuff without any problem and I go through this so I'm not a happy customer right now at all.
The techs who came out did what they have to do. But I was expecting them to at least go upstairs and check to make sure that the upstairs is okay. Because there's a unit is upstairs and after a couple of days, I saw that the ceiling was wet. I didn't see the tech go inside. He didn't make sure that everything was alright. He came here just to change the compressor and now I'm gonna bring in somebody to have to fix the ceiling for me. My wife, daughter and I had to sleep downstairs in the couch because we couldn't sleep upstairs. I am seriously considering discontinuing my service because I find it very, very, very disappointing. I just recommended AHS to a friend and this thing happened to me. I don't have any problems with the technicians' skills or their professionalism. But the process was tedious for me and I didn't feel that AHS supported me at all.

I like American Home Shield and I have two homes covered by them. When our oven did not work, we called in to file a claim. A contractor came out within a couple of days which was okay considering where we live. They did the best they could to fix it but they couldn’t, so American Home Shield replaced the range. It took about a month to get it though because it was back-ordered.
But the only drawback I see on this company is the long wait times on the phone which could take an hour. To deal with it, I just put a movie on or something and put the phone and let the music go until something happens and then I just turn it off then attend to what I need to do. I make the hour worth my time. Also sometimes, I found that when they have a lot of calls, the calls get dropped so then I have to wait another day and call early in the morning or late. But when you call late and you're waiting, they just pick up the phone and hang up. Another thing that I find strange is that the service number keeps changing. When I call from my address, they'll say the contract number does not exist. So, I rewrite it and it lasts about a year. Other than that, I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield.

Even when I had to call and bug him more than once, he was polite. In fact, I referred him to my friend whose dishwasher broke.

The hot water heater also blew up in January and AHS sent someone out to fix it and put a new hot water tank in. But before they would do anything, we had to pay them $400 for the upgrades right away and we couldn’t wait and check with AHS about it. AHS just said that they would replace it and never told us that we had to pay that amount. I didn't know if I got ripped off or not. Then, the night after they put the hot water tank in, a pipe burst where they were working. We had to turn the water off and we didn't have water for five days!
After that pipe burst, I didn't trust that company anymore and we were not satisfied with them at all. My husband was very upset. He had to phone them at 11:30 at night. And the only reason that we found out that the pipe had burst that night was because our dog started barking and I heard the water and it sprayed all over unto our garage door opener as well. And then we had to replace that on our own and it was another $400. Also, it all happened around New Year's. AHS didn't send that plumber out again, but they did send somebody out to finish off the pipe on our water heater.
When we had the dishwasher repair, the company that worked on that was very good. They kept their word and they did what they said they were going to do. They were also very nice, efficient, and careful. They came out six times already for the unit and the guy told us that they would keep coming out since we were paying them, but we needed to get a new unit. I sent American Home Shield an email and gave all the information and they gave us a $529 replacement.
It’s very difficult to get a hold of AHS when you need them. You can go online and get the service and that works well. But when I wanted to talk to someone about the hot water tank, I had to phone three times. The first time, I waited an hour and no one came. I had to go to work. The second time, I waited almost two hours and then I hung up. And the third time, it was just about an hour before I got to speak to someone who could talk to me about that $400. But if I phone the sales office, I got someone within two minutes. Other than that, everything else was good. They serve you really well and they get back to you. And I would recommend them.

It was convenient submitting the claim online when I had a plumbing issue with the garbage disposal. I found what I needed, clicked and went off. The contractor who came was cool. He fixed the issue in two seconds and the garbage disposal has been working fine. I could’ve done it myself though. Still, American Home Shield is a great company and I'd tell others to go ahead and get the warranty 'cause it's worth it.

My AC was not working. We called it in initially to American Home Shield for them to check it and they sent contractors immediately. They told us that the furnace was original construction contractor grade, 23 years old, it was on its last leg about ready to go out, and the HVAC was not working properly. The old system had to be replaced, so we went ahead and contracted them. We paid to have a new system put in. We called AHS Thursday or Friday and they got here Tuesday. It was hot down here and even though I’ve got a heart condition, four to five days was the soonest they could do. But when we discovered what was going wrong, they were here the next day and replaced the system. The contractors were excellent. They were very nice, they kept the area clean and they barely took any breaks at all. Since then, everything has been wonderful.

The air conditioner in our upstairs unit would turn on but would not produce cool air. We called AHS over the weekend and went through their automated system. Then on the first business day, somebody came out. The contractor was awesome but we’re frustrated that we’re paying out of pocket for insurance and for somebody to come out and do the same thing every year. The unit is 23 years old and we know that the problem is gonna happen again. We also know that the unit needs to be replaced but the techs would only repair it and would not replace it. It’s not their fault though because that was what American Home Shield told them to do.

AHS can be useful if you have old appliances and problems arise. When the refrigerator was collecting water on the shelves, I submitted a claim online. The contractor they sent was kinda quiet, but he fixed it. It was done okay except he didn’t collect all the water that had accumulated. Since the repair, the refrigerator seems like it’s good.

I filed the claim online and American Home Shield's website was easy to navigate. Plus their contractor was one of the best I've used. American Home Shield sent a plumber because we had a clogged drain. Everything was resolved the first time and the guy was really good too. We don't use American Home Shield that often but it's nice to have it there when we do. I would recommend them.

The icemaker went out and American Home Shield sent out techs who replaced the parts and fixed it. It’s working now. I submit claims with AHS online and it has been fine. I’ve had to wait a day or two longer than I’m hoping to, which may be because I’m under a warranty more than just an outright customer. But most of the time, the contractors they send out are good.

We had an icemaker in the refrigerator that was frozen up and we filed a claim to American Home Shield. The man from ARC Appliance Repair came out and had the right touch to it. He dislodged the freeze up and away it went. It took about 10 minutes and he did a great job. My wife is in the real estate business and had a client signed up who had a hot water heater that was not working and they were smelling gas. AHS couldn’t get to her until second day and that was disappointing since we recommend AHS and sign AHS up on almost every house transaction we do. Also, we’ve had some people that have felt that the contractors were not up to par in their people skills. But in almost every kind of business you’re dealing with these days, people have difficulty with people skills. Other than those, we’ve had good success with AHS. We call and they send somebody out and fix the issue. We’re happy with it and we recommend them all the time.

I left American Home Shield to go to Choice Home Warranty and I had them for years. But I went back to American Home Shield and I would recommend them. They are a lot better and more customer-friendly. The representatives I dealt with most recently were very helpful, courteous and responsive. And in those claims, American Home Shield replaced the washing machine and the hot water heater within a week or so. All the contractors were also helpful, informative and very professional. They contacted American Home Shield to give them an assessment of the problem and then American Home Shield gave the approval.

A couple of months ago, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for my AC. The technician came and he was a nice gentleman. He looked at the unit and tried to start it but we couldn’t get the system to go. When he started it, he blew a fuse upstairs in the air handler. He went upstairs into my attic to try to get the air handler going and he came back down. He saw that the unit was shy a couple of pounds of refrigerant so he put in some refrigerant. Since the repair, the AC has been working very well, surprisingly. He was great and I was very satisfied. However, I've also been waiting on a stove for six weeks now to get it fixed. AHS was getting parts and I haven't heard from them.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the contractor, Air Dynasty AC, showed up within the week. The technician was very nice and polite. He knew his stuff and my interaction with him was great. He came in and checked through the system, and it turned out that the problem was with the capacitor. He fixed it right there on the spot and got my AC unit back up and running. Everything has been operating well since the repair and I'm thankful for that because it’s very hot now. I called the American Home Shield main line and scheduled somebody to come out for my toilet. The plumber that they sent was very friendly. He knew exactly what he was doing and made some adjustments to the toilet. He told me that if there are any issues, they have a 60-day guarantee. He would just come back out for no charge. He was able to fix the flushing problem and the toilet flushed great but it is still running a little bit. He said that he would come back out but I can’t find his card.
During another time though, the element that heats the water in our dishwasher was broken and there were two appliance repairmen that AHS sent who were ridiculous. I was really pissed off at the first two appliance repair guys because I waited for them and they came and they told me that there was nothing wrong with it. Evidently, they just wanted to collect a service fee. A third tech was able to take care of the dishwasher problem and it has been great ever since. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield. The experience with those two ridiculous contractors was isolated. The AHS service itself was great.

I needed someone to come out to fix the garbage disposal and my Whirlpool tub and I called American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online but I did it separately. The rep I talked to said it was a plumbing company that ended up coming because the two orders were combined into one. So she did a great job and set everything up fine. Then the guy fixed my kitchen sink. However, when it came to my Whirlpool tub, he looked around and said, "It’s how it’s positioned. American Home Shield isn’t going to pay for that”. So he left it alone.
Then, my AC went out a week later so I called back. So that was where he popped again. They came. The guy changed my fuse. But last night I realized that the AC downstairs still was not working. I do not know when that stopped working or if it ever really worked. So long story short, I had vendors come out, they were not fixing anything, and I’m paying $125 every time they come. I work two jobs, so I have to take off and sit down and wait for them to come and I’m not getting anything accomplished and I'm losing money.
The second rep I talked to told me that the guy who came to look at my Whirlpool and fixed my sink was going to come back and I was like, "Come back for what? He said that he couldn’t fix it, so why would he come back?” I really don’t want the plumbing people to come back because I wanted a second opinion because they did not fix it. But the rep told me that it was because I already paid the service fee and the contractor has already taken it. And he’s giving me a second opinion because he didn't do anything. I said they can come back twice but if they can't fix it, but I don't want them back a third time. I get the air conditioning people but I don’t want them a third time.

The first time we used American Home Shield, we had a problem with the garage door not opening and closing. There was an issue where they sent a contractor who didn't know what they were doing. The guy had to call his supervisor to find out what he needed to do, and I was charged for that. And then, I had to have somebody else come out, and he didn't fix it. And then, after somebody fixed it, they said, "Oh. It's not covered." So, it was just an ongoing thing, and it was tiresome. And then we still had a problem with the payment.
Originally, we paid the first guy and when I told AHS that he didn't do anything, they said that they would take the payment back from them and send it to the other company that was coming out. Well, that took a while. And then whenever I called AHS, I was on the phone anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour before I could even get in touch with anyone.
But the claim we had for the air condition went well. We submitted it online and their site is user-friendly. We made the appointment in the early morning hours, once we noticed the air condition was out, and the guy was here about 8 o'clock that morning and had it fixed. He was great and he did everything that he had to do. The experience was wonderful. We also had a water heater problem wherein the guy they sent was good and things turned out good as well. I would definitely tell people that AHS is a helpful thing. It can be great, because of the service we had for the water heater and air condition, but I'd also tell them about my first experience with the garage door.

We’ve had American Home Shield for many years. When we bought this house in 2013, it had AHS and it was transferred to us. But I also had AHS in my previous home from 1994 until 2002 when we sold it. I've had their contractor, Magnolia Appliance, come out twice. This last time was for our air conditioner. It wasn’t cooling and the technician replaced the thermostat. The other one was when our hot water heater leaked and AHS replaced the hot water heater. I submitted those claims online and the technician that they sent out was very professional, very informative and very fast. Right now, both the AC and the hot water heater are working fine. They were both essential so having those fixed definitely made things much easier. Our experience with AHS was totally satisfactory. It was seamless and easy. I had a technician come out from a company called Best Experience, that I got through American Home Shield, and it really wasn’t the best experience. He didn’t take much time to really hear what the issues were and it was just a washer but not the dryer. He really just took the agitator out and put it back and then said that it was fixed. I asked if he likes to listen and see if it was still doing the same thing and he said no, it was fixed and I could call if it was not fixed. So he left and it was not fixed. It was exactly the same.
The Best Experience guy didn’t seem to care. I also asked him, “Do you think it’s this or that?” And he would just say, “Yes,” so I’m not sure if he understood English or understood what his job was. But we went for another opinion and AHS sent Precision Plans. The second guy at Precision seems very well informed, very knowledgeable and very personable. He was willing to take time to explain things and go through the options. It was a much better experience the second time around.
Originally he was here and then I had understood from an initial call from American Home Shield that they were gonna replace my dryer. But it was not the dryer because I fixed the dryer myself. It was the washer so they called back and said that if I would have it repaired I have the option having it repaired or getting a check for $396 after I purchased another washer. So I need to make some time to do some price comparing and see if there’s something out there that will be equivalent to what I have regarding the features. For background, this washer is a replacement of a lemon through American Home Shield and I don’t think it’s a good brand, the GE. I had problems for a year with the first one and then it was replaced with the same thing and it started doing odd things about a week after the 1 year warranty was up.
But everyone seems great when I talk to them. It’s just the follow through wasn’t happening on this particular claim. This time around, it wasn’t what I would normally expect. I just kinda wish at this point that the washer could be replaced through American Home Shield rather than me trying to see what I can get for the $396. I have recommended AHS to friends but this process has been very difficult. American Home Shield was very timely with exception to this last process that I have. When I had my plumbing issue in my pool recently it was a smooth process.

I told them it was leaking bad so it needed to be expedited. I shut the water off to the water heater. Still leaking. No contractor until Tuesday. He said the plumbing that was put in under my home warranty in 2017 was crappy work and the valves were leaking. He told us that if we didn't shut our water off or there was a chance the water heater could blow due to the pressure of the water.
I called the plumber and he is still waiting on approval. I call AHS and their system is down. Plumber says he can't get back to us until next Tuesday, one week from now. We have to turn our water on every time we go to the bathroom, brush our teeth or want to wash our hands and then turn it back off again. Absolutely do NOT choose American Home Shield for your home warranty service. After being a customer for 5 years, we will be discontinuing our service with American Home Shield and will be telling every person possible about the horrible service we recently received. Our nightmare began on Saturday, May 26th (Memorial Weekend). Our sewage pump alarm started going off and we had complete stoppage and raw sewage overflowing into our yard. We called immediately and started a claim.
We were assigned a plumber and knew that on a holiday weekend we would probably not get a callback. Because this was a crisis, we called the assigned plumber and they did not answer. We made the decision to call a plumber on our own who could handle emergency weekend calls. We know how the contract works and knew that we would have to pay out of pocket for that service call. That part was fine. They diagnosed the sewage pump had gone out and would need to be replaced. We told them to hold off so we could call AHS and see what we could do.
On Tuesday, May 29, the AHS assigned plumber still had not called us. We called AHS back and complained. We were reassigned a 2nd plumber. We heard back from plumber #2 on Wednesday, May 30. They told us they were completely booked and could not help us for at least a week. We called AHS back and complained. We were reassigned a 3rd plumber. We heard back from plumber #3 on Thursday, May 31 and were told they would not be able to help us for another week.
Keep in mind, we were now almost a week out with raw sewage in our yard and 100% blockage in our pipes. On Thursday, May 31, we called AHS back and complained yet again. At that point, we had been assigned 3 different plumbers with no success. We asked if we could just use the plumber we had come to our house because they had already diagnosed the issue as a pump that had gone out and needed to be replaced. After seeking approval from a supervisor, it was authorized that we could use the third party plumber that we had originally used.
We were given a reference number to use. We asked specifically what we needed to do to make sure we were following proper protocol. We were directed by the customer service rep (Moesha) to give our plumber the reference number and AHS’ contact information. We were also told that we would need to pay the invoice and then submit it for reimbursement. We immediately called our plumber and gave them the reference number and the phone number to contact AHS so they could proceed.
On Monday, June 4, the work was completed by the plumber. We paid $2,683.00 out of pocket + $380 for the original service call + AHS charged us $75 for the service call. We called AHS and reported that the work had been completed and asked about the next steps. We were given the AHS fax number and told to submit the invoice for $2,683.00 and we would be reimbursed between 7-21 days. Sounds easy, right?
On Tuesday, June 19, I noticed our account had been charged $75 twice by AHS for the service call. I called to find out why we had been charged twice and also to find out the status of our reimbursement. At that point, I was told that our claim had been denied and we would not be receiving the reimbursement of $2,683.00. I asked why and was told that AHS had not approved the diagnosis before the work was completed. I told the customer service rep (Queen) that we had done exactly what we were told to do. I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was put on hold for several minutes and was then told that no supervisors were available and that it didn’t matter because my claim was denied. I continued to insist that I be able to talk to a supervisor.
After being put on hold multiple times, I continued to be told that no supervisors were available. I insisted and was finally told that a supervisor would call me back. I never received a call back which I find to be a complete insult. This is truly the absolute worst customer service I have ever witnessed, not to mention we were completely misguided when we asked specifically what we needed to do to make sure we were following the proper steps.
Good morning Angie,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the sewage pump repaired. Also, per your review I am aware that we offered you outside authorization then denied the claim for reimbursement. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Broke a week later, I called Air Design, they called me a racist because I said the tech spoke no English- I was extremely upset and offended (I'm a SoCal native and half Mexican!!). AHS was NOT helpful AT ALL! They kept ping ponging me between two HVAC companies and umpteen reps who didn't take down any notes in their system about the incident, didn't escalate the issue - JUST KEPT SAYING THAT AIR DESIGN WOULD HAVE TO FIX IT AND WAIT FOR THEM TO CALL.
SOOOOOOO I'M SUPPOSED TO BE OKAY WITH SOMEONE CALLING ME A RACIST COMING BACK TO MY HOME TO FIX THEIR OWN BOTCHED JOB???!!! Well Air Design never called me (surprise!), AHS continued to lie and give me the run around between Air Design (saying it was on THEM to replace their broken part, not AHS) and AHS customer service for two weeks in a house that is 84 to 88 degrees with a puppy and a 3 yr old! On May 31st I placed a request to repair my air conditioning unit because it would work for a couple of hours and then it would stop circulating throughout the house. I knew that it had something to do with the freon. On June 6th a contractor from Oxford Heating and Air Conditioning came out and tried fixing the problem. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to and stated that someone from AHS would contact me within 24 hours. I called AHS on June 8th. I spoke with Sam who stated that someone else is going to call me back to arrange a 2nd appointment. This is after I explained my health situation and that I needed my air condition fixed as soon as possible.
I explained that I’m a United States Army elderly veteran with respiratory breathing problem. I am currently using 2 different inhalers, I sleep with a CPAP machine, I live alone, and the heat is unbearable for me. I have been sleeping some nights at my sister, because my house is too hot. To top it off, I recently had surgery on my knee and I’m currently receiving therapy and can’t walk properly yet. I am very afraid that I’m going to be rushed to the hospital soon, because the heat is unbearable and my breathing is becoming shallow day by day. I’m experiencing weakness and headaches. I’m really scared and feel no one is taking me seriously. Whenever I talk to any agent I would mention my health situation. I called AHS again on June 10th and spoke with Agentries because I missed the call on June 9th and left a voicemail.
I called for him to explain what was said on the voicemail, because I did not understand it in its entirety. He stated that AHS will cover the evat coil. He said the evat coil needs to be replaced. He also stated that AHS do not cover code mandated by law in my area and gave me following breakdown below: Costs - Codes Mandated by Law in my Area. $600 - for refrigerant. $300 - mastic ceiling. $65 - refrigerant lock and cap. $150 - float switch. $125 - modification joint line (changed or altered). $150 - modification copper line. $1,390 - I have to pay (what is the contract I have for?) I still don’t understand why AHS is still not covering the whole cost when I was told in May of last year when I came back to AHS and asked about many of the appliances and air conditioning was one them and I was told that the contract that I have would cover the cost.
Instead I was told about AHS “CASH IN LIEU”. The AHS Cash in Lieu is when they will send me a check for whatever amount they approve it for and that I must send an invoice for that amount back to AHS. Also, that someone from AHS will contact me about the Cash in Lieu within 48 hours. I called AHS on June 12th and spoke with Keelah. She gave me number for the people handling the Cash in Lieu, but that it usually takes 7 to 10 days. On June 14th received a call from Michelle. Reference the cash amount that I’m approve for which is $500. I don’t understand why I’m paying AHS for a service where I still have to pay. It doesn’t seem fair. As you can see from June 14 thru June 18 I have not heard from anyone and nothing has been done.
I called AHS on the June 18th to find out if they had ever contacted the company who is supposed to return to fix my air conditioner. They claimed they did. I called that company on June 18 and June 19 and have been told that the person who handles the scheduling will call me and no one has done so. I have been steadily calling that company (Oxford) and no one is answering the phone. I don’t know what else to do.
Updated on 06/21/2018: On June 21st, I call AHS and spoke with Ray from the Option Division and that’s when I learned that they claimed I denied the cash out option, which I never did. As you can see in my previous complain that on June 14th I spoke to Michelle in which shows that I accepted the $500. Her exact words were that she received the information on Tuesday, Reference the Cash Amount, and that she will call me back once process was completed. I never got any calls. She also stated that she will call Oxford, but I’m pretty sure her calls are going straight to voicemail, like everyone else. Even AHS is not able to contact Oxford.
I contacted a lawyer to look into the matter further as I am totally frustrated with American Home Shield and Oxford Heating and Air. I don’t know why AHS deals with Oxford. They have very bad reviews and I believe AHS should get rid of Oxford and get another reputable company. I had several people call Oxford and they also only got their voicemail. My policy is $587.88 a year, and my deductible is $100.00 already paid. This is the type of poor service I get for it? Oxford has a tendency of not finishing their job, once they are paid. Seen a lot of it in their bad reviews.
On June 21st, I spoke to Christie – She indicated that my case is in research and that someone will call me back in 24 hours. That my case is in escalation. She also stated that she will submit the $500 cash out again. On June 21st, I spoke to Brigitte to see about sending another contractor instead of Oxford, since I can’t reach Oxford, neither AHS. She stated that because it was escalated to Legal, that again I will have to wait another 24 hours before someone calls me back. No one ever calls. I’m frustrated at this point and don’t know what to do anymore. As you can see in my notes, that AHS always say someone is going to call me back, and as you can see, I’m the one doing all the calling. No calls from AHS or Oxford.
In the meantime, my health is declining. I currently have an appointment tomorrow for respiratory/breathing problems, all because no one has been by to fix my air conditioner. Besides previous medical health previously, I also have asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure. I have had to stay at my sister house in the evening because of how unbearable it is for me to stay in my own house. Is this why I’m paying AHS for? I believe I should be compensated for the inconvenience AHS has caused me for almost 3 weeks as well. It should not have taken this long for them to fix my air condition and knowing that I am an elderly person.
I believe that it is a shame that AHS treat their customers like this. Not only their customers, but the elderly, and probably children, it shows that you don’t care about them. The elderly and children are not Priority/Urgent for AHS. Where is their humanity? It has been almost three weeks since my initial contact and I want my air conditioning unit fixed and it should be done at a discounted rate due to the extensive delay. It's a shame that you don't have any respect for the elderly, veteran and children in my opinion. Heading over to stay at my sister again. Your kind assistance will greatly be appreciated.

We have had a request submitted since Friday (15 June 2018) for a non-functioning central air conditioning unit. I've called AHS every day since establishing this work order for service, and have yet to have a contractor to set up a visit, or call me back to confirm the times. To request a service visit, I had to pay $75; and have yet to receive service.
The first contractor AHS booked us with scheduled an appointment to check our air conditioner on 25 June (10 days after submitting a request, 8 days longer than they 'guarantee'); we only discovered this after contacting them when they failed to notify us within 24 hrs. I brought this to the attention of AHS' customer service where they transferred the work order to Patriot Air Comfort LLC. They have not come to inspect our AC unit, today is Tuesday, 19 June.
I have also brought this up Monday and today. Monday, AHS' customer service assured me that they would have an answer from the contractor within 24 hours of the estimated work required, and that they would follow up with me after receiving the update, which would have been around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Obviously that didn't happen; and I had to speak to three different customer service reps before speaking to one who promised to send an e-mail to the contractor on my behalf and to cc myself in the e-mail. The first representative I spoke to today hung up on me, and the second said that his "system was down," but could still process manual requests and payments.
It is currently day 5 after initiating a service request, and have not had anyone come to our home, no one from the company will take responsibility for their subcontractors, and there has been no effort from AHS to remediate this issue. It seems as though they are being intentionally evasive, and there is no means within their system to further address this issue.
Hello, Peter. We apologize that you had an issue with getting your unit serviced. If a work order is placed on a Friday, it is within our guidelines for service to be scheduled for Tuesday of the following week. I show that we have reached out to the company to request their information and that has not been updated as of yet. Honestly if I could give them no stars, I would. We have had nothing but trouble with trying to get our AC fixed. We set up a service request Friday, it is now Tuesday and no one has come out. Not only has no one come out, we were promised a phone call today with a follow up from AHS, no phone call. My husband was just on the phone with AHS for over an hour waiting to talk to someone and the first customer service representative hung up on him so he had to call back and wait another 30 plus minutes.
We live in Southwest Oklahoma, the average temperature for this time or year is upper 90s. My husband and I have a toddler and I am currently pregnant. No AC in this heat is not healthy for anyone, especially small children and women who are pregnant. It is very obvious that the contractor that AHS got for us and AHS themselves don’t care about their customers. We still don’t know when our AC will be fixed and it’s supposed to be over 100 on Thursday.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

This is the 3rd time that AHS has not covered a large project in our home. 1. 2013: Outside air unit went out. AHS sent Royal Air who stated that the work was not going to be covered by warranty company. So, $2100.00 later, I paid for the repair. Turns out that Royal Air only did half an ** job because they should have also repaired the old coils in the attic, they did not. 2. 2017: Our air goes out again. MJS Mechanical is sent by AHS. They tell us that all of the coils in the attic need to be replaced and SHOULD have been replaced when Royal changed our air condition unit. Guess what... NOT Covered! So $2400 later.
3. Our toilet has been clogged for about a week now. AHS sends DNB Plumbing. Plumber does nothing except say that he needs to get a camera down there and see what is causing the problem. Guess who denied the work... AHS! I spoke to a rep from AHS who of course said that it was not in the contract. She also said that we had one of the older contracts and that we could upgrade it to make sure that we had the proper coverage, really, why didn't someone tell me that we could upgrade?!
We have been loyal for many years to this company. They cover the little things but nothing else. After our air unit was fixed I called them, emailed them to tell me why this was not covered, received nothing back. Now I have to dish out money for a plumber to come out and fix our toilet. I am so frustrated with this company. I don't have a money tree in my yard but I have to go without something in order to fix our air, our plumbing, don't have a choice. I work for a doctor whose husband happens to be a lawyer. I will call him just to see what he advises. The way I see it, I am out $4500 plus the AHS fee and this does not even include what the plumber is going to charge.

American Home Shield is relatively new to me as I just got covered since October, but I've been happy with them. I've had four claims so far and right now, I’m having some issues with my air conditioner that’s not getting fixed. We’ve had the contractors out twice already and they fixed the capacitor but we haven’t figured out what’s going on with the air conditioner. I haven’t called them about it yet and my bill was $306 last month. We just bought the house and when I looked at the history, it was 150 this time last year. But I know that was also during the time when we had them come out and fix it, so the bill has a lot to do with it.
Submitting a claim to AHS is easy. I either call or go online and I have somebody out within the next day. The reps I spoke to were nice and professional. And when the contractors came, my husband said everybody was knowledgeable and nice. But we had an issue where the contractors did not show up on time and they came after hours. They got there about seven o’clock and they were still there at four. We also have a heating issue which I have figured out what's going on, and I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on with the air conditioning. That aside, I would recommend AHS. I only have a one year contract with them, but I will be renewing it.

I had an issue with my washer and dryer as well as my air-conditioning. Submitting claims for them to American Home Shield has been very easy. Submitting online has been easier for me though. Nevertheless, I've been really lucky because both the air-conditioning guy and the guy who did my washing machine were awesome. I had an issue with my pool as well and they took care of that too.
The air-conditioning guy came out to fix something with my AC but then I had an issue with it. He had given me his direct phone number so I texted him and told him my AC still wasn't working and that I'd like him to come back. He said it was no problem and that he would come back at the end of his route. He came back and fixed the problem. He was awesome. With my washer and dryer, there were some sort of clamps that the contractor had to replace. However, he didn't have the parts so he ordered them and got them faster than he thought he could. Overall, I've been very pleased and super-happy with my American Home Shield warranty.

American Home Shield was excellent. The water on the tub and the toilet would not stop running and the Jacuzzi would not turn on and off. I submitted a claim with AHS and they got back quick. And in the time limit they said, the contractor came out and fixed it. I file my claim on the phone because I like to make sure I talked to a person and their reps are very friendly.
Their contractors have all been very qualified in their job and if they couldn’t do a job, they referred it to someone else. I've had them for over 10 years and I've been happy with it. If you have a home, invest in getting American Home Shield to service your needs or any repairs. It's cheaper dealing with a company that you can call at any time to take care of your problem.

I had a clogged drain and I didn't know what was wrong with it. So, I decided to use American Home Shield. It was my first time to use them and I thought it was gonna be painful, but it was easy. I called them and gave my information. Then they asked a few questions and got my account. I told them what the issue was then I got an email within minutes. They let me know who was gonna be calling me, so I knew who was coming. And when the repair person called me, they told me who would be coming and what kind of vehicle they’d be in, so I could be expecting them. They came over within 24 hours and the contractor called me when he was 15 minutes away. He got there on time and it took him around 30 minutes to fix the drain. He was very precise and he knew what he was doing. He tested it and made sure that the plumbing under the sink was all tightened down. And he made sure everything was good and it worked out. He was very professional.
At first I was skeptical about using the AHS service, but now I know that if I need them next time, it’d be an easy process. With AHS, I din't have to take care of looking on the web and trying to find a plumber, or someone to come out and go through all the details, and having to call a number of people to get a price for the service. I just made one phone call, was told of what I had to pay, and that was it. They did all the work and I had to wait until the repair guy came out. I've also already recommended AHS to a few friends. It's like a worry-free insurance where I know I'm gonna pay something but I'm not gonna pay full price.

The contractor that came out to do the re-lock was quick and he did a good job. And since they changed the locks, all of them have been working properly except the one in the front door where it doesn’t go all the way like it used to so I have to push it a little extra.
I have been with American Home Shield for a few years now and my only frustration with them is the amount of wait time. It happens when I need to call them as something goes wrong with my property. I have an ongoing issue with our pool and it didn’t matter what time of the day I would call. I would be on the phone on hold for a minimum of 45 minutes waiting to speak to a representative. Other times, for more than an hour. It is incredibly frustrating. They need to hire more customer representatives to work on the phone. I know of someone else who did the same thing so it’s not just me. I need help that’s why I paid the insurance but I need to be able to speak with somebody in a timely manner, not to just sit and listen to horrible music which I feel should be classical. Also, the reps whom I’ve spoken with weren’t as polite and professional as I was expecting from a larger company.

I had the same standard inconvenience, having to clean the refrigerator out with a towel once a week. Then I had a replacement with an outside company and the contractors did an excellent job bringing in the replacement. The customer service of AHS was weak though. The AHS rep was the nicest young lady. She had us wait on the line and called the company and verified that we were under contract and that we were covered for the control panel. Then she came back on the line with us and said that it should be no problem. So they came out and fixed the problem. But we had the pump continue to leak, so we put it back in. The gasket was loose and they came out and they fixed everything.
The first gentleman who came out was rude and we were not happy with him. But the second person who came out to replace it was very pleasant, professional and respectful even though he was from the same company. He went out of his way and told us what else was going on with our pool, which was really helpful. Some of our pipes were leaking on the floor. I got the AHS warranty and it had the flooring and all that included and so I wanted to have a repair guy come by and check it out. He put some kind of adhesive on the pipes so I shouldn’t have anything leaking but I do. I’ve never had an issue with the pool before but since he made those changes, now I have something going on with it. He looked at some of the new piping for the plumbing that he did. It looks good but one little spot was leaking. I have to call American Home Shield or his company and they can resent him back out again.
I’m not sure if I might need to have a second opinion from another company because he had been here a couple of times and still not fixed it. I’ve emptied the pool completely and refilled it so we were not gonna do that again. I told them if that’s what is needed, then I would have to talk to American Home Shield or to his company to see who’s gonna pay for it this time. The water company doesn’t do any discounts. First, it was on me but this second one, either American Home Shield or somebody’s gonna have to pay for it.
I made three service calls with AHS. Once I replaced all the locks in our house. That guy did a good job and was pretty quick. He came in and did all of that but what I’ve noticed was, he didn’t tighten up any of the screws. I was like, “Why is this loose a little bit?” So I got my tools and tighten up every one of them. But the locks were all changed and the keys work good so I’m fine with that.
Then I had the appliance guy came for my refrigerator. When he came, he plugged it and it was making an awful noise and it wasn’t cooling. So we unplugged it and he did his thing. When we plugged it back in, it was as quiet as it can be. I was like, “What in the world?” He told me that the freezer overworks and it freezes it back there so the fan hits it and it makes all that noise. He had some stuff on his toolbox that he utilized and the refrigerator has been perfect ever since. So I had a good experience with AHS before and even now. We’re kinda still working on the pool though but I’m positive about it. I’m hoping that it will be resolved soon. I’ve used AHS before and if I had any issues, they came out and took care of everything. So I would definitely recommend them.

I've had a claim with American Home Shield since last September because my air conditioning broke. They sent three different AC crews. The first one came three times and did absolutely nothing. The second one didn't even show up. The third one came and after looking at the unit and doing their work, they figured out the whole unit needed to be replaced because it was broken. It's a 10-year-old Trane unit which is basically top-of-the-line and the contract allows American Home Shield to replace it by a different brand name as long as the capacity and all other characteristics are pretty much the same. But the problem is they're gonna replace it with the worst possible quality. After all they've put me through, they want to replace it with a unit called Goodman which is the bottom-of-the-line and I'm certainly not satisfied with that.
I only paid service fee once, but that was after three months of discussions with them until they finally recognized and acknowledged that it was the same thing and it was the people they sent who were completely inept. The last crew did a good job though. I spoke with the gentleman who came a couple of times and he was knowledgeable. He knew what he was doing, it's just that the unit is not fixable. I have been waiting since 5/29/18 to receive service on my fridge, have spent up to 6 hours maybe 7 on calls to AHS that have been transferred, dropped or not returned. They have so many departments and their hands are tied as to what they can do, they always have to put you on hold to ask someone else. Many times there is a language barrier and the hold times are LONG. It gets very tiring listening to the first 5 minutes of them verifying your account and I get this, but having to put SO many calls into them in a day when it should be resolved in 2 not 15.
I understand they don't have control over some of the poor contractors they send and I think this is because contractors do NOT like working with home warranties, but then again I am paying almost a $1000.00 a year for one or two repairs every 2 years for that! I will be researching other warranty companies when my contract ends because they penalize you for canceling for their inability to resolve.

I am making no changes - same size and kind of gas hot water heater and it is located in my garage. How easy can that be. Take one out put one in. What a scam! Both companies. AHS and Concept Renaissance Services, along with the company that botched it to begin with Polar Plumbing aka Total Air Care Service. I give all three a one star only because there is nothing lower.

My gas water heater stopped working last Tuesday so I called AHS to have someone come out and repair it. AHS contracted out Mr. Rooter in which they contacted me the next day to set up appointment for the following day. Mr. Rooter employee shows up and goes in the attic and get the water heater started and proceeds to tell us that it’s not working due to the fact a plastic storage tote was too close to the water heater and that’s why it wasn’t working. Well an hour after he left it stopped working.
I called AHS that same night to report that the water heater and then received a call from Mr. Rooter to set a appointment for the following day again. Well two days after the first appointment the same guy for Mr. Rooter comes out again, he is a hour and a half late and I had to call him because we were waiting on him all day so we could to go to a family function we didn’t get to go to, and he gets the water heater started and proceeds to now tell us that it is too hot in the attic and we need to have a fan placed in the attic to blow on the water heater so it doesn’t get too hot. Kinda odd we haven’t had this problem the last two years we have lived here.
Well once again shortly after he leaves it stops working again. Once again I call AHS and they set up a appointment for two days out. I received a call from Mr. Rooter that morning stating I had a appointment between 1-5 again and 5 rolls around again so I call AHS. At this point it’s been almost a week and we have been spraying off our three children in shower like you would a dog because there is no hot water to take a bath. Well I call AHS and pretty upset at this point and they tell me their system shows that someone has already been to our house and fixed the problem. Then was really mad and told AHS they need to fix this now and the employee tells me “let me talk”.
Well you can imagine the kindest words didn’t come out of my mouth. I get hung up on shortly after that. I call back and another employee places me on hold to see if she can get ahold of them on a emergency call out and we get disconnect. Call back again and get told now the company that will be fixing the water heater will now contact me tomorrow to set up an appointment to come out. My family and I have now been without hot water for a week, spraying our kids off in the shower and now I’m getting a hotel room so we can take warm showers and baths. Whole reason why I purchased this home warranty is because I have to travel with my work and I’m not home every day so if something went wrong someone could come out and fix the problem and well I was wrong. DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!

We had AC contractors out to our home for three consecutive days. Each day a different diagnosis. The latest regarding power issue. We had a friend who is an electrician and the electrician AHS sent state there is no power issue. So we are on day six where I have my family staying somewhere else, even on Father's Day, and still waiting for this issue to be resolved. My biggest issue is that my wife and I have to miss work and mainly coordinate the entire effort between AHS and their contractors.
The entire diagnosis process AHS has is poorly manage as well to me when you start hitting multiple delays. You would think at some point they would require both contractors to be on site are the same time and resolve issue. Likely we may have to wait for another part to be ordered and this process could hit 10 days. So bottom line I am paying AHS for service but handling the effort. Tomorrow when I get back on the clock for AHS, I will ask yet again when is my window for AC contractor and if possible at the very least the AC contractor talks to electrician while they are here. I will be also requesting a different AC contractor.

My microwave was not working so I filed a claim over the phone. American Home Shield sent a company out. However, they could not repair my microwave because they could not get access to it since it was mounted. So, they left me a little sheet of paper. I called back and apparently, the tech who came went ahead and ordered parts for the microwave even though they couldn't get access to it. I told the representative that I'm confused because if they couldn't get access to it, how did they know which parts to order? The representative was going to contact the company and find out from them what the status was. And then, somebody was supposed to be calling me back, so we can figure out if they're actually going to fix the microwave or if they have to send somebody else out.
It was also odd because I had a repair person out here at the beginning of the year for the microwave and he was able to access it and figure out what was wrong. They replaced the part on the door and it worked. They didn't have to take the microwave down or get to the back. I explained this to the technician but he didn't wanna listen to me. But other than him, the techs who have been sent out were great. I'm still very happy with American Home Shield and I would highly recommend them.

I bought my home back in September and I had a couple of issues with the air conditioning. Twice, it wouldn't kick in. I called American Home Shield because it was quicker, and they got to me and scheduled it right away. The contractors they sent out were very polite and prompt. However, it was frustrating that we used two different services instead of the same guys and then both of them said two different things. One was a switch and one was a door switch, and it was odd. It has never happened before and all of a sudden, it happened two times. It caused a lot of frustration. You didn’t know what exactly happened and here it is, one little switch but you never know. You take their word for it that that’s what they said. It seemed like it was making more noise out there but the contractor looked at everything and said that he didn’t see anything else wrong with it.
On the other hand, so far, it's been working so perhaps he was right. Also other than that, the 75$ which I have to pay for the service call would have been better off with AHS if it was something a little bit more involved. But as it turned out, I could have paid that to anybody. Moreover, I've talked to different people about the services and a lot of times in different situations, it's a valuable service. But in certain situations, they just wanna keep something going instead of replacing it with what you want. That’s the problem with the service.

My washing machine doesn’t drain for some reason when it goes through a certain cycle. It doesn’t happen every time, but every once in a while, it gets stuck on the last cycle so, it does not drain at all. I would shot back the water out of it and then wring all the clothes out and put them on the dryer. The tech came over, did some tests and told me to wait as long as possible because it eventually kicks back on and it might take a day or two. He didn’t see anything at the moment so he told me to take pictures the next time it happens and that I had 60 days if I needed to call in again before I was charged another $75. He was a nice guy. He came later than what he was supposed to because I don’t get out of work until 4:00 and he stayed late to come see me after work.
The same tech came out and did my microwave before it died. He explained everything and what he could do and what he couldn’t do. He looked at the microwave and then sent me the email with the options for the new microwave or if I wanted to upgrade. He came and put it in when it came and so, it was easy. I've been with American Home Shield for three years and I recommended them to a couple of my friends who just bought houses strictly for peace of mind. I told them that when their washer or something important breaks, they only have to pay 75 bucks and the contractors will come out and fix it for them rather than having to buy a whole new equipment.
Good afternoon Tim,
Thank you for the kind words regarding your experience with American Home Shield. We hope that you continue to enjoy your experience with the coverage we provide.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my AC over the phone. It was quicker that way and it was great with their rep. They listened to what my issue was and they had the AC service company. They called me back and told me it was gonna be four days before the contractor could get to me. Our temperature at that time was 90 degrees so they offered to call the contractor back and they listed me a priority. And there was someone at my house the next day. The tech was very professional and courteous. He introduced himself at the door and let me know everything that he was doing. It was a part that was bad and he called a local supply place. Then, he got the part, came back, and installed it and the air conditioner works now. My experience with AHS has been positive.

I called American Home Shield and I ended up calling the contractor so I can set up an appointment. The process was n't bad and it was my first time doing it so I didn’t go online. I'm an old school guy and that's just not me. I like to talk to someone personally. That way, I can get the response I want if I got any questions. When I'm trying to conduct a business, I need to know the stuff that has to be done because I got questions and any concerns, I'd rather do it face to face.
The contractor came out for the air conditioner, he diagnosed it and we needed a fan motor. He was a nice and professional guy. He came back because he had to put the order in for the fan motor and then he replaced that. Since then, everything has been working properly. The air conditioner and the fan motor are still going good and if there are any other problems in the next 60 days, he'll come back out with no service fee. If AHS wasn’t good, I would cancel it. I'm happy with it and I don’t have a problem.
