The American Home Shield representative that I talked to over the phone was very informative. I needed to change all the locks on my new home and the rep told me exactly what was covered, so it was great. Then, they sent out a very professional guy. He told me what he was gonna do and he did it. It took him the time he was gonna spend there. He was also training somebody else, but it was a great experience. I’ll recommend AHS and I’m also trying to change the insurance on my other home to them.

When spring came and I switched over from heat to AC, the air conditioner wouldn't turn on. I bought the house in February and we had never tested the air conditioner so I was concerned. I checked all the breakers in the house and I checked around but I couldn’t figure out what it could be. The house was built in 1929 and it had been a rental. Then it was rehabbed in the ‘90s and the people who sold it to me included the warranty as part of an incentive to buy. So I called American Home Shield. I was able to find my paperwork, go online and put in my address. It was really easy, which was good.

It took a couple of days to get the service technician to come out so it was pretty warm for a couple of days. In St. Louis, there are not a lot of days where it’s comfortable to just have the windows open in the spring. You go from heat to AC in about a week’s time. But I was glad to be able to have somebody come out. When the service technician came, he showed my mom what the problem was. There was a breaker attached to the furnace itself that I didn’t know existed. He said it just had to be flipped and he fixed it. I felt foolish but he said, “If you didn’t know it was there, you wouldn’t have known it was there.” So it was great. If the AC had really been broken, it would’ve been devastatingly expensive.

This company has employees who don't know anything. I spoke to 8 different people with each telling me something different. They each hung up on me and no manager would call me back. If you are shopping for home warranty keep shopping and don't use American Home Shield. They are horrible and they are not interested in solving problems. They also don't work with emergencies. The companies they contract with are very low quality. You are better off paying more and using reputable companies.

Where to start... I entered a service request due to a burst water heater on Saturday 6/9 at 1413. This was my first encounter with a warranty company, so I also reached out via online chat to seek guidance on what to do next. Here are where the lies start. I was told that they hadn't assigned a contractor yet, so to call back in 2 hours. I called AHS back about 3 hours later and was told that AHS has 24 hours to assign a contractor and 48 hours for repairs. I was given the option to pay upfront and be reimbursed, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I called and checked the status all day, only to be told that a contractor still hadn't been assigned. At 0944 6/11, I received a text message that a company had been assigned. I reached out to the plumber and they agreed to come by 1200 same day. The contracted company showed up and was very professional.

After his inspection, he called AHS for authorization to start the job. AHS didn't agree with the price quoted and advised that they were requiring a 2nd opinion. (At this point, we've been without hot water for 3 days.) I receive the contact information for their 2nd opinion, but first I call AHS, to question the needed second opinion. After all, I originally was the given the option to pay whatever amount out of pocket and reimbursed.

The female that answered was less than helpful and extremely rude. (Are their calls REALLY recorded? I hope so!) I was told that they only work Monday through Friday, so she didn't understand why I was expecting service over the weekend. Now, at no point over the weekend were business hours mentioned to me. I had just spent 2 days waiting for a contract assignment that wasn't going to happen until Monday! I eventually asked for a supervisor. I was put on hold for 45 minutes!!! At the 45 minute mark, the line was picked up and disconnected. More on this later. I call the 2nd plumber to only be told that they can't come out before Friday afternoon. That won't work.

I call back to AHS speak with someone else. He says the only thing he can do is assign it to another contractor. I ask for clarification about the second opinion; after all, they were willing to reimburse me for whatever amount just yesterday. So, I ask him... had I randomly chosen the company that provided the first estimate and paid them out of pocket, would AHS have actually reimbursed me the full amount? He couldn't tell me for certain that I would have been reimbursed in full. WHAT? So, then he assigns it to another plumber. I call the plumber but they also can't come out for 4 more days. I'm beyond upset at this point!

I call AHS again! This lady wouldn't say that the other employees had lied, but did say that requests made over the weekend will not be handled until Monday and she couldn't guarantee that I would have been reimbursed in full. She offered to find another plumber. I again ask for a supervisor, when I'm told that they have no way to transfer calls to a supervisor. Remember earlier when I sat on hold for 45 minutes? For what? So that girl could take a nap, go for a walk, take a lunch or whatever she did, as I stupidly sat there hoping for a resolution? UGH! After being lied to repeatedly and still no hope in sight, I agree to be set up with another contractor. Of course, it's almost quittin' time so I'm told that I wouldn't be assigned to a 4th contractor until sometime Tuesday.

So, it's day 3 of no hot water. And I have no idea when they'll find a contractor to replace my water heater at an agreeable to AHS price. I have small stinky children who desperately need soap and water applied to them. So, I've decided to pay the first plumber out of pocket to come tomorrow and replace it. I'm out the $610 that AHS so willingly took when I purchased the warranty, the $75 service fee that they happily deducted from my account for today's service call, and I still have to pay the $1100 to replace my gas water heater tomorrow.

Thanks for nothing AHS. Unless one of you choose to let my family come to your home for showers and to do laundry? Save the lies and runaround. I'll just take a 2nd day off work to be home for the plumber to come out. I definitely would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone. Don't waste your time or dignity!

My recent experience with AHS Insurance Company was very disappointing. I have submitted two requests on 05/29/2018 for both our cook top and dryer that both broke down. AHS sent their appliance contractor Accord Appliance on 05/30 for the cook top and supposedly also for the dryer, and the technician diagnosed only the cook top and found a part is needed to fix the burners. The technician came back on 06/05 and told us they are still missing some parts that need to be ordered.

Today 06/11/2018 I finally got hold of them and informed me that they are still waiting for the part and have scheduled us for a visit on 06/14/2018. This length of time put us for almost two weeks without a cooktop. In addition, every time I called Accord Appliance Office – it is very long hold and they do not answer the call but returns the call few minutes later if you leave a voicemail. There is a lot of phone tagging with this contractor. In addition, the same Accord Appliance Company refuses to set an appointment for the diagnosis of the dryer and they keep telling me that AHS has not given them a ticket to check on the dryer appliance.

Both AHS and Accord are pointing fingers to each other and in the meantime we are left with no cook top and dryer for more a week and a half now. By the way, since I started calling AHS and asked for a supervisor to help me, I have never been able to talk to a live person. Also, the service fee has been collected already from my credit card and my cooktop is still not fixed and worse now since before Accord messed with it, we have burners working but now all burners are not working and torn apart.

After 40 minutes on hold I finally got a live person, and she gave me the wrong information. I am trying to get my air conditioner inspected. The HVAC companies I call will not service the unit because I have a home warranty. When I finally did get a CSR at American Home Shield, she told me I could use anyone - it didn't matter. Good Grief, maybe their CSR need more training. Maybe they could answer the phone once and a while. Around and around you go on the phone. The website is not any better.

AHS is by far the worst home warranty company we ever have seen. We have two issues we have called on since we got our policy. The first one was a minor plumbing issue where the primary vendor they use in our area is a massive scam artist working with AHS to make incorrect diagnosis so they are not covered within the contract AND to then attempt to collect thousands of dollars for unnecessary repairs out of pocket. After demanding a second opinion, a junior plumber fixed the issue which was simply a timer on the water heater.

Our second issue is still ongoing. We have a faulty oven which has had a repair person out three times and has recommended the oven be replaced. Rather than do that, AHS ordered the repair company to remove the motherboard and ship it out of the country for repair. They are saying we will be without our oven for 1.5 to 2 months and that should be acceptable (even though the solution is not guaranteed to work). What a complete joke. Our latest call to customer service was a rude lady telling us that it is standard practice to do the above things and that customers should just deal with being without an oven because she does not use hers that much... I hope that people get wise and realize what a scam artist this company is.

Worst service ever. Our AC unit stopped blowing cold air on a Friday evening. Forecast for the weekend here in the desert was 110. Called AHS and put in a service request. Two hours later received a call that someone would contact us within 24 hrs. Finally heard from them the next morning. Was told earliest appt. would be Monday. Got another called telling me for an extra $50 they could have a service man out at either 8 am or 12 pm. I chose 8 am. We had to kennel our two small dogs because it was too hot for them and decided to stay at our son’s house for the night. We left early to be home in time for the serviceman.

At 10 am received an email that someone would be here around noon. Cancelled their serviceman and called a local AC company. Even though it was a Sunday, this company had someone here within 45 min. The problem was fixed in 10 min! After talking with this service man about our runaround with AHS, he waived the trip charge. Our bill was under $300 and we had cold air within an hour.

After reading all of the reviews, I doubt that the problem would have even been covered under our contract. We’ve paid for two years and never had to make a service call. I am cancelling our contract and not renewing with AHS. Extremely disappointed in their response and the response of the contractor they assigned to handle the problem. Word to the wise. Always read reviews when you are looking for a company to give your business to. I won’t make that mistake again

We have been American Home Shield customers going on two years. Our realtor highly recommended our purchasing this program since the home we were purchasing had an older AC unit. When the unit started blowing hot air, we called AHS. They sent out Air Link Mechanical who temporarily fixed the problem. A few more months went by and our unit started making a very loud noise. We called again and AHS sent out Air Link Mechanical. This time we were told the compressor was bad and we had two choices. Either have AHS replace the compressor, a covered part, and pay up to 2,000.00 in Freon since it was an old unit, or buy a new AC unit. We were strongly encouraged to go with the new unit because "AHS will just replace each broken part on the old unit as long as parts are available for it for up to the next 7 years and you will be paying high cost to keep running your old unit."

We ended up getting a new AC unit with a different company than Air Link Mechanical. American Home Shield never paid to replace our compressor even though the company they sent out to fix it said it was bad. When we tried to speak to AHS about our situation we were told that Air Link Mechanical only wrote up our compressor as "loud" and not as having gone bad. We were told that we had to contact Air Link Mechanical to have them resubmit the paperwork saying the compressor was bad. We called three times, but the service technician did not return any of our calls. I feel AHS knowingly partnered with a company with poor customer service. I believe AHS should have done more to help us resolve this issue. We were left with a big problem and nowhere to turn for help.

When I called to cancel our AHS service after I had tried to come to some resolution to no avail, I was told that I have already paid 160.00 towards this year which they cannot refund and that to cancel I need to pay 26.00 more dollars to cancel our contract. I just want people to know that if you are purchasing AHS in hopes that they will help you repair or replace an older AC unit, you might want to beware. I paid about 750.00 for AHS and they did not come through for us.

AHS uses no name companies that deliver less than stellar service. I have had a few service requests since purchasing our home 3 years ago. None of the contractors have resolved my problem. One plumber literally just said "I don't know what's wrong", took my $75 service fee and left. An A/C guy came out last year and replaced a capacitor, but that same capacitor went out again and had to be replaced this year, so they clearly put either a very low quality, or a used capacitor on my unit. My A/C went out on Friday night. I called and set up a claim because the website wouldn't let me log on (still won't).

They said the contractor was open on Saturday and although they had 24-48 hours to call, they should call first thing Saturday morning. By 11:00 am, it was 80 degrees and climbing in our home and we still hadn't received a call. I called AHS, they checked with the contractor and I was told that they couldn't come out on Saturday at all. So I called a reputable company, and they were there in an hour and a half. I had to pay $300 to have the capacitor replaced for the 2nd year in a row. Bottom line, I have been paying $60 a month for 3 years for nothing. The ONLY reason I am keeping the warranty is because I hope that should my A/C go out completely and have to be replaced, that AHS would actually be worth the money. My confidence in that however, is very low.

Called AHS to help with a contractor to help with electrical issue. The issue was resolved. Then was told by electrician that I had a leak underneath home so called AHS to help with the issue. Contractor comes out... very unprofessional as can be... tells my wife that looks like damage is self inflicted and we would have to pay for it. I must say I have never been so upset. He makes a temporary fix as he puts it and will come back to make repair but be prepared AHS would not pay for repair.

At this point I crawl under house to look at this temporary fix. It is a line running to a vanity sink and has several joints that leak could be coming from. Very disturbed about this for this is definitely a situation where nothing was self inflicted. AHS is currently sending another contractor out for 2nd opinion and hope this is a more knowledgeable contractor than the first who was obviously looking at more at getting into my wallet than solving my issue. I was with another company for 11 years with a variety of issues through the years... never a issue that could not be solved. I hope this has a good outcome but currently very disappointed in a company claiming to be the best.

The contractor was out here three different times. The washer guy didn’t really seem to know how to fix washers. He seemed like a nice person, but not very capable. Nevertheless, eventually, it got repaired. Every once in a while, I still get a code. But, it is not enough to open up another ticket. So, once it breaks again, I'll have to open another one. Also, the people who came out for our air conditioning claim were okay, and its performance after the repair has been fine.

The plumber came and told me that if it was a burst pipe, it was not gonna be covered. And it seemed like it was a burst pipe but there wasn’t a way to access it. So, I told him I wasn’t gonna pay for it if it was not covered. He didn’t really seem to verify with American Home Shield if it would be covered or what it was. So, I paid a $75 fee for him to say, “There's nothing we can do that’ll be covered under the warranty.”

American Home Shield have sent three people total to my home and they were competent. The first time, Sandy from Crispy was one of the major guys and he didn’t say very much. He had an assistant who was friendly. The second time, the guy that came out and diagnosed the problem was somebody I hadn't seen before and he was personable and seemed very good. And today, the one who came out was Sandy. He arrived on time and did the work. It’s pretty much done now. He said that they had to order the tray to go underneath the unit in the attic and so they're gonna have to come back out and put that in. But there shouldn't be a problem with that because fixing what was clogging the line means it shouldn't cause the compressor to freeze and the melting ice won't start filling that tray and risk my filling. So, if it takes him a couple of days, that shouldn't be a problem.

But it's extremely hard to get in touch with them sometimes. When they were here doing the other the work, they answered the call immediately and showed up at that first time. When they came out and did the work, they asked if I wanted to sign up for the annual air conditioning maintenance thing and he explained all of the different things that they would do, coming out, cleaning the compressor, checking the electronics, the electrical connections, and so forth. The price was a little high and I thought about it. I was gonna ask them if they can give me a little better price. If they can, I'll do it.

So, I tried to get back in touch with them. I called, and they said I have to talk to Sandy. The person that answers the phone said she’d leave a message but I didn't get anything back, so I called again. I got the voicemail and left a message but I didn't get any return on that as well. I found their email, so I sent an email but no answer on that. I found their website and it has a contact form on it, so I filled that out and again, I didn’t get a return on that. But when they get a message from you and then I call in, they are able to see it on their computer. They also seem to be very proud of the fact that they are American Home Shield's representative for the area and they have been pretty quick. It wasn't too many days since I called AHS and now the problem is fixed.

Also, when they came out the first time, they put in a capacitor and it seemed like the problem went away, but then I had to call back in later since I was still getting the problem. So, in one sense, what they fixed the first time, I don't know if that capacitor needed to be fixed. I'm assuming that the block in the line is the real thing because I remember having a problem like that with the AC before that if something overloads the compressor, it will freeze and then it has a safety thing that shuts it down. The symptoms look like what we had this time, where the temperature goes up and up, and up and then, later, it will start over again and it will run. American Home Shield is a very good company and I have been with them for 10 years. I called them recently since my refrigerator's generator was leaking. My interactions with the reps were excellent and they guided me through the whole process. They did their logistics and sent out the technicians to address the problem.

The technicians that came out were excellent too. They helped me take the food out of the refrigerator and put it back in. They were very professional, cleaned the work area, and met the safety standards. They unplugged the refrigerator and did everything they could. They tried to address the problem and told me what was wrong, and they also let me know why they couldn’t get the refrigerator fixed. We had a second opinion and it was the same. Then AHS replaced my old refrigerator in a timely manner and I received a new one. I was very happy with the service and would highly recommend to my friends that they buy an AHS warranty. Repairs would be very expensive if they would get a contractor themselves each time. I would rather have a monthly payment. Having the insurance from American Home Shield gives me peace of mind.

Air Handlers usually come out and maintain my AC on a regular basis to make sure that if something goes wrong, I'll find out sooner than later. The guys who came said there was a leak somewhere and told me that I needed a whole new unit. The guy said, "We'll fix it." But I told them I have a home warranty, and I'd have the home warranty company send their people out here and deal with it. I called American Home Shield for someone to come and check the AC to make sure whether I needed a new unit or not. When the technician came, he fixed the leak in the unit and put new Freon. He said that I'd have to replace the unit eventually because it’s getting worn out but the AC is good for now. Apparently, there were leaks around the pipe outside where the unit sits. The technician who came was awesome. He was very nice, very polite and very professional. Right now, my house is cold. I would recommend AHS. In fact, my son has one now.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield not having any idea what the issue was, but obviously knowing that there was a problem with our gas stove. So I put it in, kind of explained it, and the website is user friendly enough that I was able to just submit it and feel good about it. We immediately got a phone call from a contractor who said they were coming out to look at it. And so they called it a gas leak, but that’s a scarier phrase than what was going on; all the rubber seals were shot on the gas stove. So, it got repaired and the stove top now works great.

I had a terrific experience with the contractors too. I would refer both that appliance repair company and the plumbing company we had if somebody didn’t have coverage with AHS and needed the appliance repair or plumbing services. I have referred AHS as well to friends and family because I’ve been really pleased with the service. It’s a good policy for homeowners to have some peace of mind. If they use it great, if they don’t then I think the premium is still certainly worth the risk mitigation that it provides. And we’ve been appreciative of the experience we had with AHS.

They came out four times on it and it felt like they were putting a Band-Aid on the washing machine. My latest claim was when N & K appliances did my refrigerator. If it gets to a point where the AC failed to repair, we’re gonna need a unit at $10,000 so the realtor said we should just keep the home warranty. The AC just won’t die. It just stalls once every year or two and the techs would come out and they'll fix it for $75, which the copay is, and then they move on. When our air conditioner died, we submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was alright submitting a claim. The contractors who came were good. I’ve never had any problems with anyone in particular. I would tell others that AHS gives decent enough services and they do a great job of what they do.

I had a broken sump pump and my basement was flooded. And then, I had a blockage in my plumbing line under my basement, which ended up being a broken plumbing line. I went online and filed a claim to American Home Shield. Their customer service was great and their contractor came out within two days. The first claim, the pump, the contractors had to come back because they didn’t have the right pump to put in. And AHS said they do not cover it. I paid the contractor directly and they came back. Two days later, my basement is flooded again. The pump that they put in didn’t work. They came back again and fixed it. They said that the pump that they put in the first time was faulty.

The second claim was the one I really had an issue with. The first time the contractor came out, they said that my drain was blocked. It happened before. A 30-foot snake wouldn’t clear it. The contractor told AHS that it was a lymph blockage and AHS don’t cover the blockages. The contractor charged $300 for them to come out and he came back two days later with a 100-foot and then he said the pipe was broken. I was a little upset by that because how did they know it was lymph blockage if they didn’t know what it was. There were two different diagnosis and I was bothered by that. And they told us that the service would cost $1,500 a day because they gotta dig on my concrete. But they couldn’t guarantee that they would do it in one day and that's a gamble I don’t wanna take at that time. So, I found another plumber that did the whole thing for $1,000.

So far, everything is working fine now. My washer broke too. I filed a claim with AHS and the contractor came out right away. AHS replaced the whole thing but I haven't received the washer yet. Overall, AHS is good. My experiences with them have been really good. I had it for four years now and it’s been financially good for me. It solved a lot of issues but this time, I had a bad experience with the plumber. When I file a claim, I don't want that contractor to come out.

However, I had trouble with my refrigerator and AHS is sending out a contractor again today. This is the fourth time. The guy came out early and fixed it quick and so far, it's running well. He also told me that it could last a year or 5 years, or it might be another leak in there that they didn't find. The first guy who came out didn't say anything about the leaks in the main system. He cleaned out the whole system on the outside and I was a pound Freon low so he put some in it. I had to pay 110 for my deductible and then I had to pay the company that American Home Shield sent out to me.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was quick and easy. When I did it the first time, I waited on the line since I didn't have their phone number handy. It prompts for the phone number if the account number is unavailable. It would find it for you and then you could just submit what the problem is online. HORRIBLE Company and warranty!! We have had American Home shield warranty since last 3 years in Pearland, Texas. The main reason we bought home warranty was because our house was built in 1999, so the appliances are old, mainly air conditions units. Per their warranty, they will repair anything that can be repairable and replaced which can’t be repaired. I pay every month $66.00 premium and $75 + tax ($81.00) for service call.

Last year in July 2017, our downstairs A/C Unit stopped working so Technician came and injected freon gas (for which we paid $70.00 per lbs for 3 lbs - so total we paid $210.00 + 81.00 services out of pocket amount). Then again, less than a year later, we had the same problem in May 2018, so a technician from Three Brothers Air conditioner & Heating Repair came and told us that both our evaporating coils have leaks. He gave us estimates to replace our entire systems and told us that, "If you repair it’s not good idea because these units run on R 22 freon gas and by year 2020 it’s going to be discontinued".

After 3 days, AHS called me and told me that, "If you want to repair this one coil, you have to pay total $1690.00 from your pocket" ($770.00 cost of Freon + $300.00 cost of Drain pan + 195.00 drain line + $250.00 float switch + $175.00 mystic field). Per AHS, all above is not as per code. I told them that we have drain pan & drain line, not sure about remaining stuffs but they keep arguing that it’s not as per code. I was arguing with them about "why your technician didn’t tell me during his visit in 2017." They told us that, "If you want to fix this from other vendor, we will pay only $419.00 without parts", so I have to buy coil on my own. Long story short, if you accept their offer you have to pay $1690.00 from your pocket and they are only going to replace a coil that supports the old system (R 22 freon gas which will be discontinued).

This company is a complete scam, so don’t wait until you get caught up in a situation like me, their technician are only wants to sell their system instead of repair or fix problems, which AHS wants from them. I paid totally $2400.00 as premium during last 3 yrs. and my problems were not even resolved. Furthermore, they’re completely disrespectful and do not treat their customers well. I tried to argue my claim for a few weeks and was just passed down from one department to another department. They had no intention of trying to help resolve my issue and just wanted to take my money. I have never been this upset and frustrated with any other company before. Please stay away and choose another company for your home warranty.

The pulley that lifts the garage door broke. A contractor, 495 Garage Door, came out and told me about their diagnosis with the garage. But American Home Shield said they don’t cover the part. I think it was pretty bad. It was just a part of the garage that it should have obviously been covered. And to me, it was a simple thing. AHS said that the only thing that they cover is the motor. They say that they pretty much cover everything and that if it can't be fixed, then it has to be replaced. So, I just wound up paying the garage people and they fixed the door for me. AHS didn't cover anything but they still charged me $100 deductible and didn’t reimburse any of it.

That was the first time that I used AHS and after that, I cancelled them. Most of the warranties are not valuable because they talk a good game and when it comes down to it, they don’t cover this or that, so why would I need it. The coverage was communicated to me and I’m sure it's buried somewhere on their website, what they cover and not cover, but that's something that AHS keep on the down low.

The module inside the electric starting module went out so the contractor that American Home Shield sent out had to put a part in it. We ran into some issues because when they first came out, they thought that it was gonna be under warranty and it wasn’t. And then we went on for about a month but AHS covered it. Since then, the water heater has been alright. But it’s awful and terrible that it takes 45 minutes to talk to anybody at American Home Shield.

The central air conditioning unit in our house had a leak and American Home Shield's contractor came out once before and put some Freon in it. But it was really hot in the house, and so I called AHS again less than a week after that. And then a guy came out and went up to the attic, and without even taking anything apart, he said that the evaporator was freezing up on the cords up top. He was gonna charge me $1,300, out-of-pocket, for the job and with AHS paying him a couple of thousand dollars at the same time, that would be $3,000. They could’ve gotten us a whole new unit for $4,000. I have spoken to AHS and they’ve told me what they cover and don’t cover. And the guy that was working for them knew those.

I had another guy come out and look at it and basically, I need another unit. We’ve come to find out I have more leaks going on, on the outside which AHS' contractor didn’t even check. So even if he would’ve come up to fix the cords in the evaporator I would’ve still had to call him back out. And with me paying that insurance - I’m not satisfied with what’s going on. I’m not gonna pay $1,300 because it’s not fair so I’m just gonna do away with everything. It’s too frustrating having a hundred and something temperature in our house and nobody wants to come out until they get ready. And we waited over two weeks for somebody to come out there to try to look at this thing. People interested in getting AHS should find somebody else and not mess with them. The company is not right and they already know what’s going on. I hope that somebody at American Home Shield realizes that and change some of their policies.

Mills Plumbing did was still warranted. They looked it up and told me it was so they came back out and replaced the part.

The contractor sent out by Steven A. Mills Plumbing was very professional and polite. They told me they needed to order another part and they would be out and would schedule another visit. They did what they said, came back out and fixed it. With the plan that I had before, I had to pay the service fee plus pay for the part. I love American Home Shield as with them, I don’t have to do that and that works best for me. It’s awesome. Get the service because it pays.

And then he went on ahead and continued to go to the toilet. He fixed that but I wanna call them back because it had started running again. He never told me exactly what the problem was with the toilet. He just looked at it and told me that it was an easy fix and I let him do his business. And for the first two days, it was fine. But now, when we flush it, it will come and will stop, and then it will start running a few minutes later. It continually does that. I submitted the claim for an air conditioner recently via phone to AHS and it took five days for a tech to get out. It was right when the weather started turning hot and they were just overwhelmed. The contractor was Budget and their tech got the job done. He was in and out. This was a good experience but I’ve had some really bad experiences with AHS early on. One of them was when somebody came out and fixed my air conditioner and it wasn’t fixed properly. And it took a better part of a month to get somebody to come back out because the person who originally fixed it became unresponsive. It took many tries for AHS to bring somebody else back out. During that timeframe too, which is about two years ago, it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour if you called before anybody would even answer from American Home Shield.

On the other hand, they’ve made an improvement as the last experience was very good. They have worked on a couple of things. I haven’t saved any money because of what I pay in premium, but I don’t think I’ve lost any money either. The frustration is you’ve gotta work through American Home Shield rather than working directly with the contractor, which can slow things down substantially when there’s a problem. If everything goes smooth, it’s great. If there are problems, you gotta keep calling back to American Home Shield rather than the contractor.

This one project where the contractor became unresponsive, that was a nightmare because they would reach him and he’d say he’d be right over and he wouldn’t show up. He would only answer the phone if they called. If I would call, he wouldn’t answer. I would wait an hour to get through to American Home Shield and the rep would say, “I’ll call him right now.” She would have me on hold and then would come back, “He’s gonna call you in 10 minutes.” And he never called. This went on for a little over two weeks.

My air conditioner broke on Wednesday, May 30th, the temperature outside was 92 and inside it was 82, so I placed a service call to AHS. The service provider assigned to my home told me they couldn't schedule a service repair until the following Tuesday. Since that was out of my contract response time and unacceptable, and nearing 5:00pm, I placed another call to AHS. Every time it's a daunting process of repeating information and long hold times. After explaining the situation again and making them aware that I have a daughter with asthma and two pets, I need service very promptly. They said they would try to find another company to respond and if I didn't hear back by 8:00pm that night, I was given AHS's emergency 800 # to call. No one contacted me.

I called the 800# at 7:30am and again had to go through the daunting process of the course of events. They finally found a service company and that was when the real nightmare started. That company couldn't get to me until 2 days later and scheduled my appt. time between 11 am-3 pm, which I took off work to wait at home. They were 2 hours late, showing up at 5:00 pm, with no call to let me know. While I was waiting and trying to contact the company to find out if and when they would show up, I looked them up online and was shocked to see their reviews online were absolutely horrible. The technician looked very young to me and as I was explaining the problems with my air conditioner, I asked him how long he'd been working in the industry and he told me he was 4 weeks out of school. I was concerned he wasn't experienced enough, however, everyone needs to start somewhere, so I let him continue his diagnosis.

He said my compressor was weak and was slightly low on refrigerant. He ended up touching a voltage wire which blew the fuse in the furnace and fried my thermostat and the entire air conditioner/furnace went completely off. At the time of his arrival, at least my air conditioner was working, although it was making a loud noise outside, but was running, just not cooling like it should. He tried several things to try and fix what he did, but had no success. By this time, it was 85 degrees inside, I was an hour late to a function, and it was getting late on a Friday, so I asked him what the plan was if he couldn't get it running. He said well maybe someone could come out tomorrow, which was not an acceptable answer and I asked if I could talk to his boss.

I asked his boss what plan B is if the technician couldn't fix what he broke and get my air conditioner working. The boss was completely rude and asked me why I didn't have faith in his technician. I replied that I didn't know his technician and the only thing I knew was that he was 4 weeks out of school and it's worse than when he got here. Then the boss told me that if I was going to talk crap about his guy then he could just leave now. I said that I want it fixed and I was only asking what Plan B was going to be if he couldn't fix it. The arguing continued for a bit.

The technician did finally fix the furnace and got the air going again and had to replace my thermostat, however, the repairs were like putting a bandaid on the problem. My air conditioner is still not cooling to the set temperature on the thermostat and I'm reluctant to start this nightmare procedure all over again with contacting AHS. When I call AHS, I can never get to someone who has more authority to handle situations like this and don't have confidence in this company. Most likely, I will be looking to cancel my contract.

I paid for insurance that covers all of the appliances in my home. My a/c stopped working in April, I have had technicians come out 6 times, and my a/c is still not working. It's now June, over 100 degrees, around 115 with the heat index, and American Home Shield will not honor my contract. They keep sending out the same incompetent people who just say they can't fix the a/c, and put me back in queue.

Updated on 07/11/2018: Finally in mid June I hired two independent a/c companies to give me estimates to fix the a/c. They both told me that I needed the entire system to be replaced and that AHS had done repairs wrong, including installing the wrong compressor required by Texas law the first time they came out and that it ruined my evaporator coil as well as having a broken valve. They also didn't follow code when doing repairs, and left the suction line driver off the compressor, etc.

Eventually AHS said that I could have a company of my choice do the repair since their technicians were so bad, but they wanted whoever I hired to call them first. And they gave me a list of about 20 companies that I COULDN'T use. I spoke to at least 15 different companies, but none of them were willing to even speak with AHS. They all said the same thing, that AHS was a terrible company and no reputable a/c company would deal with them. By this time I was desperate and finally was forced to pay for the repair out of my own pocket even though I had insurance through AHS. At this point I have not been reimbursed for any of my expenses.

I've had so much stress because AHS didn't honor my contract, I am beyond angry about the time and expense. I had to pay $75 for their original awful technician to come out and replace a compressor that they had put in only a couple of years ago... Then I had to pay $300 for coolant, then they had to replace the compressor a week later... They wanted more money for coolant but I refused. I also had to pay $5300 for the new a/c, and $189 for two diagnoses, and of course $720 for the useless a/c insurance contract from AHS. All of this has cost me thousands of dollars, when I already had insurance to pay for it... and so much time and frustration I can't even describe it. I can't believe this company is still in business.

Recently purchased AHS. Two months in I call to have my AC fix. I set up the service request through the automated line. Quick and easy. Fast response from the HVAC service tech. Comes out to do work on my system. Says he doesn't have the parts, but he'll look into the warranties on the machines and fill out the paperwork to have my AC fixed.

Two days later, I get a call from the HVAC company telling me there's a problem with the work order, and I need to contact AHS. I follow through and call AHS. As it turns out, the work order for my HVAC system wasn't correct because the work was for 1 unit not my whole system (i.e. 2 units). The automated service doesn't ask for how many units. AHS say this is my fault because I didn't speak to a representative and used the automated line, which I will add that it is the recommended way to place a service order.

After quickly realizing that the associate I was speaking to did not have the power/authority to correct the error, I asked to speak to a supervisor. He put me on the call list. I wait a day and call back to find out I was not on the call list. After explaining the situation to the new associate, he refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor, would not even pull me on the call list, citing that no one will be able to help me, and that the problem is my fault and I should have fixed it before the technician came out to my house. Of course, at that time how would I know it was a problem?

The summary comes down to having to pay an additional service fee for something that would have been covered by the first work order. This was the worst customer service I have ever received. I was not treated with respect, repeatedly told it was my fault for using the automated line, and denied a simple request to even speak with another associate and/or supervisor. I'm still waiting to hear back about my work order and now I will have to make an additional service request, and an additional fee for an error on the part of AHS. I would not recommend this service to anyone.

I was able to resolve this issue with the company. AHS paid the warranty up to the maximum on the policy. Read your policy and understand your limits! Working with the consumer affairs advocate from AHS was a pleasant experience.

    Original Review: June 9, 2018

12 Year old AC system which has had several issues with it in the past year. I purchased the warranty over 2 years ago, with the understanding one day I may have to use it to replace the system. Back in time, 12 years ago when the system was put in, it was working at optimal levels, and sized for the house. Forward 11 year later, 3 different repair companies working on the AC unit. The technicians which are sent, understand how to get the coils to cool, but do not understand how to troubleshoot when their isn't enough air being pushed out of your system to cool your home.

I have been told by 2 different companies representing AHS, the AC units are not sized right. To my dismay, I don't understand how after 12 years of cooling properly, I am now undersized. So I wonder of course, was there a change in how cooling is determined? I haven't added any square feet to the home, in fact I added walls to the interior, which would only aid in the AC cooling the upstairs. I hired an AC engineer, he came in and provided an assessment, simply because the house needs to be cooled. He checked the Static Pressure and Velocity and noted the Air Handler was not properly pushing enough air.

It would cool properly to the coils, but there wasn't enough pressure to push the air through. The system has simply lost its efficiency over the years. He also noted that the unit had not properly been taped at one time, and the system would need to work harder in order to maintain the static pressure. We taped the system backup, and though we gained about 5% more air flow, it still wasn't performing at optimal levels. The recommendation of the engineer was to replace the air handler. However finding the parts to do so, is near impossible because of the change in refrigerant (R22 to 410), so it made more sense to replace the entire AC system.

I called AHS, but there isn't an option to speak to someone about the issue. They need to call you back. I didn't hear anything for 2 days, and finally I received a call, but I wasn't able to answer it. They provided a number, but then that went to queue again, and I was not able to talk to a live person. I gave up. It was easier to reach someone to get a new warranty, than it was to use the warranty. I cancelled the contract 2 days later. Lesson learned. In my opinion, Home warranties are worthless. In the past 2 years, my monthly rate has been increased, but I don't recall receiving any communication of an increase, just the credit card bill. Save the monthly fees, find a reputable vendor to service your systems who will serve you, and not the warranty company.

On Monday AHS contacted me and informed me that a service technician would contact me to set up an appointment for Tuesday 5 June 18. I asked if I could get a service tech out sooner and was told no. The next day a service technician (Drain **) showed up and informed me that he would need to call in the diagnosis to AHS and would let me know if the water heater was covered. Five minutes later he informed me that I would need to pay $600-$700 above what the warranty covers as a result of State Codes. I asked what State codes he was referring to and he stated that I had to replace a gas line and expansion tank. I informed him that my son was a Master Plumber and looked at the water heater and stated there was no code violations.

I purchased my home in Apr 2008 (new home) and there was no work done on my water heater ever. If there was a code violation, they would not have been able to sell me the home. He advised that he would call AHS. I stated that I would call AHS and speak with them. After being placed on hold for 45 minutes, the service tech departed. When I made contact with an AHS rep, I was informed that they had to wait until the service tech called in the diagnosis before they could determine any cost above what the warranty would cover. I advised AHS of what the service tech had informed me and they stated they never received a diagnosis from the technician and I should wait until they receive the diagnosis. AHS called me back later the same day and informed me that I would need to pay $650.00 above what the warranty covered. I asked why and they informed me that it was result of code violations.

I informed them that my son was a Master Plumber and he informed me that there were no code violations associated with my water heater. AHS stated they needed to go with what the technician informed them. I asked why would I need a home warranty if the cost to replace the water heater exceeded the cost of the water heater ($600)? What is the purpose of having a warranty? I asked if AHS could cover the cost of the water heater and I get the unit installed myself. The AHS rep stated they would have to get back with me. I called the next day (Wednesday) and the rep informed me that they were considering denying my claim as a result of code violations and I again stated that I had no code violations. I asked the rep if they were aware of my issue (hot water heater) and the rep advised that they were aware and stated that at least I have running water.

I thought to myself that they intend for me to heat water on the stove to be able to wash. The rep stated rather rudely that they have 48 hours to respond. As of today (Friday) my issue has not been resolved and my wife was advised today that the cost out department was running behind. Tomorrow will be one week without a hot water heater and my issue has not been resolved. AHS does not care about your issue. I have been paying into AHS since 2009 and this is the service I get. I work in the government and have had several people approach me about AHS flyers they have received in the mail. My initial response would have been to throw away the flyer, however, I will wait until my issue is resolved or not and give them the full experience.

The website states "We cover the repair or replacement of components and parts of water heaters, including tankless water heaters and circulating pumps that malfunction due to certain causes, such as, normal wear and tear. Not covered: Auxiliary holding or storage tanks. Noise. Fuel storage tanks and energy conservation units.

Besides the specific terms listed here, coverage may be limited by general exclusions and limitations in your home warranty contract. For more coverage information, please read the sample contract, including but not limited to, the "Coverage Overview" and "Limitations and Exclusions" sections. AHS canned response is "I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience." Totally dissatisfied to date.

1st let's start with the dishwasher, 1st they send someone out who does nothing but take dishwasher apart and say it's my fault it is not moving water up through arms, then sticks screw driver through the filter. Then I complain and get second opinion from company. And they come out and replace latch to open door and refuse to fix the arms that don't spin and the filter which is part of the motor does not turn but all they pay for it the door latch. Now I am going around with the air conditioner, they send out company who diagnosed it from the driveway. They did not have a ladder to get into the attic, then said, "Oh if this other pipe leaks you have a problem," then I pay another fee.

They send that same person back who does the same thing, then my pressure regulator needs fixed and I have to pay 400 to fix the pipe. This company is a joke. I will spend many hours on the computer letting others know so they do not pick this company. Save your money, the new house was suppose to be a joy and they have made it a nightmare. The people who answer their phone can never put a supervisor onto the phone to resolve issue but are great at running you around and doing nothing.

I had a claim for my garage door opener, which I filed online at 5:30 in the morning and that process was easy. I then got a call from the contractor at 7:30 AM and we scheduled an appointment for a later time that same day. Then they came out. They were 30 minutes late but they called prior to the scheduled appointment to tell me that they were running behind so it wasn’t a major deal. They then informed me of what the home warranty covered and what was gonna be my out-of-pocket expenses. They were here for 45 minutes, completed the work, and were gone. So the experience is good. But there have been times in the past where there were some confusion between American Home Shield and the contractor.

I have two contracts with American Home Shield and I’m very satisfied. I had a couple of situations and they were really good and they took care of it. I filed a claim for the outside faucets that were leaking and I feel like the first gentleman who came played a trick on me. He went out and he reduced the water flow from the house so it would not leak. There was then a low water flow in the entire house. He fixed the backyard but he didn’t fix the front yard. So, I called them back and I told the people what had happened and that the guy had not fixed the problem. They said they would send me somebody else, and they did a couple of days later. The guy fixed the issue so I was happy with him.

Fortunately for me, I’ve got a second air conditioner and I was able to pump it up. The technicians then came and they were friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve used them before. The air conditioner has been working good since. A lot of times however, American Home Shield is not so quick, and they don’t get the best contractors. I just had a water heater that went down then the contractor was not very good and tried to hook me for a lot more money. What American Home Shield gave me in reimbursement didn’t even cover the cost of the water heater. So, sometimes, they really make me irritable.

We have five air conditioners at our house, and we had someone come out because one of them wasn’t cooling. He diagnosed the problem within five minutes and had it fixed. The unit was working again in 10 minutes. And then we had another air conditioner that did not come on three days later, and the same guy came out. And it was exactly the same repair and it took about another 10 minutes. Then, when we were in the process of selling our house, the inspectors on the house identified that two of the other air conditioners were not cooling enough. The guy came out, and checked those, and fixed those quickly. It was all really fantastic.

The only issue that we had was that since I had different air conditioners, there was apparently this thing called a recall where if they came out, and they fixed something, and then it was not actually fixed, they would have to come back out for free. American Home Shield told me that it was impossible online to have a second air conditioner claim within the same month because they assumed it was a recall, and on the phone, it was also very difficult to schedule that. Apparently, the contractor gets negative marks for having a recall repair even though they are not recalls because they are different air conditioners. This is because their system is not set up to handle that. Other than that, the representatives at American Home Shield were fine. It just took a long time to explain to them that it was not the same air conditioner. Overall, I've had other home warranties in the past, and AHS is much better.

I always get a followup email, a text message, or both, that they received my claim and then they always inform me to whom they referred the service. The job was scheduled quickly and the contractor came out within a couple of days. He inspected my garbage disposal and determined that it couldn't be repaired. It was the original one for the house and he had it available. He installed it and he was done within 30 to 45 minutes. The garbage disposal has been great since and it's much quieter than the other one.

For the most part, I've been very happy with American Home Shield and I refer them to most of my friends. However, I had issues a couple of times with my furnace and/or air conditioning. It's a combination unit. I've had a couple of issues where it's taken several days almost up to a week in the summer for the A/C to be repaired and that was bad, but it was during peak season and everyone's A/C broke.

I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim for our toilet. Working with their contractor has been great. He talked and told us what he was doing. Since the repair of the toilet, it has been working fine. However, we also had a problem with our air-conditioning and AHS hasn't fixed that problem. Their technician said that our unit needed an air compressor and some type of electrical strip and the part has yet to arrive.

While the people who have been trying to fix our AC have been wonderful, the problem is with the damn parts department at American Home Shield and with the department that didn’t let me know that there is an expedition department that I should have been put through to way earlier than I was. They finally put me through to the expedition department because I kept saying that I needed to speak to a supervisor or a manager.

We've had 100 degrees out here and we’re disabled, older people. I live on a fixed income and couldn’t afford to get a motel or anything. AHS' reps put me through to a manager and now something’s being done. Still, that's thanks to the people who are working for AHS, the contractor. He came up with the idea of locating a part close by and I don’t know why Home Shield couldn’t have come up with that idea.

I call things in with American Home Shield and I had a problem with them once. There were some hose bibs on that were not working properly and the covered items in my contract say hose bibs. But when the person came to the house, he said that none of the three that we had were covered. I told the rep on the phone that it was the problem before anybody came and the girl on the phone said they were covered, and she set up the appointment. I was totally confused by it. The contractor that came to fix them called American Home Shield up too because I said, "They said it was covered and you're telling me they're not." As it turned out, the person from American Home Shield that I spoke to shouldn't have sent anyone out because apparently, when they were talking about hose bibs, they were talking about the connections for the washing machine inside the house. That was the only time I had a problem with them.

We also had a leak in a pipe that was underground by the spa. Apparently, it was defective from day one because it was a really odd place for the pipe to crack since it was not anywhere that there was any pressure on it. It was underground and nobody would walk there. The contractor came out and replaced the pipe and they figured it was just stressed over time.

The contractors that come out to our home know what they're doing. However, the last one that came out with the air conditioner had an attitude problem. He was like, "Well, don't you question me, I've been doing this for 20 years." My husband has been an engineer for 50 years so if he asks the contractor a question and the contractor is not giving him a really good answer and sort of just blowing off off the top of his head, my husband will know the difference. However, the contractor seemed to be in a bad mood when he got here in the first place. He was a little late and I had just called up his company to find out if he was coming and he walked through the door as the company was calling him and he was getting all over that person on the other end of the phone. Then he came back the next day and he still had the same attitude.

Nonetheless, we've been very pleased with what has happened when we had appliances that failed and couldn't be replaced/repaired. We were very pleased with the service. The appliances that we got in its place have worked out really well. I'm always telling everybody, if we happen to be discussing anything with home repairs, to look into American Home Shield. They are a really good company.

I was charged the yearly rate instead of the monthly rate. I've called 5xs to fix this issue to only be told different things each time. First I kept getting sent back and forth between billing and sales. Once that was figured out I was supposed to get my money refunded and the monthly rate applied. Should take 3-5 days. Wrong. It's been a week now and the agent I just spoke to said she's putting the request in again to the accountant. It should take 3-5 days. $439 is a lot of money to be twiddling their thumbs over especially when you are only expecting $39.99 to be withdrawn. Instead of helping me this is starting to cause a hardship and I'm ready to cancel them all together. I am not a happy customer.

I put in a request last Thursday, repair guy out on Friday, turned in information to AHS. Had to call Monday to inquire what was going on. Got the runaround about still needing more information from contractor and contractor saying they sent everything. Part was supposedly order on Tuesday for their warehouse. Part did not leave until Thursday. Called Thursday and was told that the part should arrive on Thursday. It is Friday and no part. This is not even the contractor fault. It is all the AHS. No communication. Would be nice for them to call and let me know what is going on. They are not on my list a good companies today.

All the guy did was stand there and stare at hole in the ground... We were told he would call us back and never did. Right now having AC problems and someone came to fix it but hasn't worked right since. Feel like this company is just out to make money and not fix the problems.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We have been without air conditioning for two weeks with a small baby in the house, and it has been over 90 degrees almost every day. When we first contacted AHS, the first company they assigned to us never showed up, answered or returned any of our phone calls. We couldn’t even leave a message because their “mailbox was full”. It then took 3 more days for another company to come out. I was told the part needed had been ordered that following Monday, but when I called for an update (because I did not receive a call with an update when I was told I would) I was told the part hadn’t even been ordered yet.

It was then finally ordered that Wednesday (or so I’m told) which was a full week after the company came to diagnose the problem. In that time, I was hung up on, put on hold for 55 mins before being disconnected, and was supposed to receive calls from supervisors twice and was never followed up with. I feel used, lied to, and completely taken advantage of. If I can keep one person from being taken advantage of as I was, I would consider this review successful. What’s the point of having a warranty when nothing gets fixed.

My wife informed me of a plumbing leak last week. She was outside watering the flowers in the backyard and noticed water dripping down from directly below the master shower and running down the brick wall. I checked our AHS contract and found that broken/leaking pipes are contractually covered, so I filed a claim.

The plumber came out on Monday and I had already run tests over the weekend to narrow down the cause of the leak. The leak ceased while the system was pressurized so the supply lines were good. I ran 20 gallons of water through the drain and still no leak. Turning the shower on, the leak appeared 20 seconds later. This limited the possibility to only a few soldered joints that are all behind the tiled wall.

While the plumber was there, he found that the elbow where the shower head connects inside the wall was completely corroded, and the threading had gaps from the corrosion, so a new elbow was required. Everything was great up until this points; technician arrived on-time, diagnosed the issue correctly, and had come up with an action plan to resolve it. The problem occurred when the plumber was getting ready to make the repair. He needed to remove a part of the wall to expose enough of the wall to make the repair. Because of this, he called his boss to get approval as another company would have to come repair the wall. After speaking with his boss, he told me it was going to cost $150 extra because they had to cut the pipe... This is where I got pissed.

He stated that AHS considers any pipe cuts as a "water modification" and they do NOT cover them. He told me he fights with AHS on this issue all the time and that every time a customer has an actual leak, they get charged an extra $150. This was ridiculous to me, as the part being replaced only costs around $3. I sent the plumber home and told him I was not going to pay $150 and that I was going to follow up with AHS. According to the contact, the verbiage clearly states (Section F, Item 4 PLUMBING) "COVERED ITEMS - Leaks and breaks of water, drain, gas, waste, or vent lines -..." This directly contradicts what I was told. It is impossible to fix a broken pipe or leaking pipe, to code, without cutting it and using new fittings. The only exception I could think of is a loose connector.

I reached out to AHS Customer Service and they did not provide any assistance. They stated that the diagnosis was not submitted by the plumber at the time so there was nothing that could be done. I asked if the $70 could be refunded because they refused to repair a covered item, and AHS said this was completely non-refundable regardless of diagnosis and if any work was done...Our conversation ended with no ticket number for callback, just an empty request for me to follow up, again, for AHS's lack of follow-through. I previously had a different home warranty company and I have never had this kind of grief.

I have been with AHS about 10, fortunately for our family we haven’t had to call AHS for too many issues. I called in a request Friday 6/1/18. Our AC unit was out, mind you I live in Las Vegas. I asked if AHS gave anything toward buying a portable AC unit so we wouldn’t suffer as much, I was told no and that my recall AC will be scheduled soon. I did get a call back about ten minutes later, granting me a one time small reimbursement. Saturday 6/2/18 tech comes out. Determines the compressor is out. June 3rd tech sends his diagnosis 2:30 pm. June 3 I call early in the morning to check on the progress. The representative that was rude and short and advise me that since tech send it through email and not call in, it has not been looked at.

I then asked if I can speak to her supervisor and she put me back in the call queue, had to wait another 30 minutes and of course the representative I had spoken to earlier never documented my call so I couldn’t even make a complaint on her lack of professionalism. I was not told my work order was in the authorization department. It’s now Thursday 6/7/18. I call this morning and was told now it’s in the purchasing department but for some strange reason the compressor has not been purchased.

The rep Ashley put me on hold to speak to purchasing department. After a long while she comes back and informs me she is still holding and will call me back. I never did get a call back so I call again. I’m now told it’s been purchased, so I call the company to has been assigned to me. They are behind. The earliest I can get my unit up and running is 6/10/18. That means I will have no AC for a total of 9 days, with above 100 degrees days and to top it off I was given 3 fax numbers to fax my receipt which one didn’t even go through. What a joke. Horrible services.

I reported the central air conditioner not working. AHS said they would contact an HVAC company which they did and when it got late afternoon I contacted the HVAC company and they stated it was outside their service area and never bothered to call me. When I called American Home Shield I was informed it had to be turned over to a separate section of the company to find another technician. I found out it might take 24 hours. The problem is that it is almost 90 degrees. I have policies on two houses and this is my first request for service. I am not impressed.

Updated on 06/11/2018: The nightmare continues, I have already done one review. I own a cabin in the North Georgia Mountains and the air stopped cooling. I requested service on Wed 6/5/18. AHS did assign a company the next day. Unfortunately the company was in Tunnel Hill Ga near Dalton and I am in Mineral Bluff Ga near Blue Ridge. After waiting too late afternoon and no contact I called the HVAC company and they informed me it was outside their service area. Why did AHS not check this out prior to assigning this company to fix my air? I called AHS and was told I had two options, they could find someone else if I jumped through all these hoops or they would find some other company. I chose the latter because I thought it would be easier. I was wrong.

After many hours I called AHS again and said it is very hot and I need my air fixed. She informed me that we had to give the section at AHS 24 hours to find someone else for repairs. I said that is unacceptable but hung up and called back and got permission to hire a company which was on my same street. After I did this I received a call from AHS saying they had a company in Calhoun which would come and repair my air. I asked the rep from AHS to have them call me and they did today Mon 6/11/18. The lady was very nice and said that AHS had canceled the appointment but she was following up to make sure we had been taken care of.

Of course this is not what I told the AHS rep to do. The local HVAC company that I contacted on my own came out the next day and repaired the central air and would have come out the same day except it was so late in the day after trying to deal with AHS. The total bill including refrigerant was $223. The bill from AHS would have been at least $155, a difference of $68 which I don’t know if I am going to get refunded because I did not jump through their hoops. Oh by the way I was informed that AHS only pays $10 towards refrigerant which costs $55 to $80. Thank goodness I only needed one pound. In short not happy at all.

When the outside part of the AC stopped working I initially submitted the claim online with American Home Shield and it was very easy. The appointment that it gave me was four days to have someone come look at the AC. And with it being Texas, I had called to see if there was any way they could get somebody out sooner and the person that I spoke to was really amazing. He put me on hold and called several different places trying to get someone to come out sooner. He made a very good effort but it was the busy time of year and everybody was just booked so that was all they could do. The people I talked to were very helpful, friendly and went above and beyond.

Also, the man A-US Air Conditioning sent out did a very good job. He was very friendly. He told me if there were any more problems within the next three days, to give him a call on his cell phone. He said, “Even if it’s Sunday night, give me a call and I’ll come check it out and make sure everything’s good.” The AC has been great since he came out. American Home Shield is a really smart investment because you never know what can go wrong, and it could be something major that you’re not gonna have the money out of pocket but you generally in most circumstances just have to pay the $75 service call and then it will be taken care of.

And when I submitted a claim for the replacement of the hot water heater, they just asked me to turn in the receipt and make sure that the plumber was licensed. So, I wrote his license number and his phone number. It was filed good. However, he was a disaster! He lied to me. He is a big fraud and when he came, he said that not only do I have to replace the water heater, but I also have to replace five other things. I am an engineer myself and I told him there was no need to do that. But he said they will not replace the water heater unless I replace those things that will cost me $600. That was a complete rip-off and I hope that AHS won't engage this plumber anymore. It will bring down their reputation. Also, the owner of the contractor company called me and told me that they don't agree with me. Then, I told AHS and asked if they could give me a cash-out, which they did but I haven't got the money yet.

I'm very proud of American Home Shield and all my experiences with them have been very positive. I'm glad that I have the coverage and I recommend them to anybody. An average person does not realize it and thinks that it's big bucks where they pay a little bit each month. But in case something broke, you don’t have to start a hole in your stomach and try to get a second mortgage. With American Home Shield, call them and they fix it. You go on and they save you a lot of money. It's a very good investment for anybody.

One time, American Home Shield sent out a guy to fix my garage door. The guy was very unprofessional. I told that to American Home Shield and they sent someone else out. The new guy was very professional and took care of my garage door. American Home Shield listened to my complaint about who came out. They corrected and addressed the complaint right away. They never gave one word different. They were very good.

Then on a recent claim, the washer went through a cycle, got to where it showed 13 and it stopped. The clothes were still soaking wet so I had to push on the appliance, turn it back on, do a spin dry to dump all the water, and then put them in the dryer. Also, it was leaking. It had thrown off a lot of water so it wet everything else. Turned out, it was a hose down. It's under warranty and it's worn out or busted. The guy from EaZy Appliance came out and he was very professional. He’s an old timer and he obviously did the job quite often. He knew exactly what he got to do and he did it. I was impressed with his knowledge. I was thinking that we got to get another washer, but it was not the case at all. So far, the washer seemed to be working.

When I got home, the AC wasn’t working. It was hot in the house. I went around downstairs in the basement and checked the system. I wasn’t getting anything to it. I also went outside to check the condensers and it didn’t look like they were running. So I submitted a claim to American Home Shield to have someone come and take a look at the AC. I set up the appointment through the online system. I got an email back saying that somebody will contact me. And then, the local HVAC company sent me a text message that they will be coming out the next day to take a look at the AC.

I wasn't there when the tech came but my wife was there. The tech showed up and told my wife who he was. I’d already let her know that the tech was coming and she showed him where the systems were. He went out and it was actually a tripped breaker on the line that I didn’t know existed. He checked the breaker and then he went back inside to make sure everything is working right. He also checked the filters and that was it. The breaker tripped one time since the repair but now that I know it's there, I just went out and hit the breaker.

I’ve used American Home Shield in the past on a couple of rental properties. I was really happy with the fact that I could call them and they’d send somebody out there and take a look at the problem. I didn’t have to worry too much. The only negative was I have a rental property that has a Jacuzzi tub and they said that they don’t work on Jacuzzi brand products. I got a motor that was out and nobody would fix it so I had to buy everything outright which I didn’t understand why they were particular with that brand.

When my hot water heater went out, I had to have a new one and I was without hot water for about a month. But that was more my fault than anyone else. I was out of town for a while. But when the contractor came in, they put paper down on the carpet so they wouldn’t get anything on that and they installed it in an hour and a half. That was all that it took them to do it and they were very professional and courteous. It was great. I had hot water in an hour. American Home Shield paid for most of it and then I had to pay for some things that weren’t covered.

So far, I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield. I re-did it this year and I also had them last year. Right in the middle of the storm Harvey last year, I had a whole bunch of people here staying with me because their house was flooded and my garbage disposal went out. I had put a whole bunch of carrots down there, not realizing that it couldn’t chew them all up. But I had to call the technician back out because that wasn’t the problem. I had a claim with American Home Shield that involved a dishwasher that was not working. It wasn't turning on so I called American Home Shield and they put me in contact with a local company. The guy from Optimum Appliance who came out to fix it was a very friendly person. He did everything he could to make sure that he was clean and he didn't wear his shoes in the house. He laid out clean blankets to make sure that anything that would have been impacted by the repair was kept clean. It was really nice when it first worked then it started getting glitchy. The dishwasher isn't running through the whole cycle so I may have to call them back. American Home Shield had been really accommodating and I like that I have a home warranty. It's for my peace of mind that I don't have to really worry about going out and buying the new appliances when things go wrong.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield when my dryer was not working and the whole thing went really well. The contractor who came out was very pleasant, friendly and clean. He looked up the dryer, found the problem and let me know that they'd have to order a part. He couldn't get it fixed that day but I suspected that was gonna be the case anyway so I was fine with that. It took five or six days and in that time, I was just air-drying everything. But as soon as the part came in, they called me. They got back out there and my dryer is great now. Also, I had paid the deductible when I scheduled the original appointment and I liked that I didn't have to pay the repair guy. Although I'm not very good with doing things online, I wasn't confused when I used the website so it was good and user-friendly. I was very happy with the entire experience and I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I was at a cookout and I was telling my girlfriend and her husband the problem I was having. And they started telling me about American Home Shield. I had never heard about it before. And then when I looked into it with my husband, I was like, “This is what we need.” We've been with AHS for a year now and we’ve been satisfied customers since. Recently, we had an AC issue. There was a leak. I called AHS and gave them the problem. They connected with the contractor and the contractor came out. He was very polite and very professional. He told me what the problem was, told me what he had to do to correct it and how long it would take. He repaired the problem and fixed it in record time. I was happy with the service.

I was a landlord for a long time in Virginia and I had a very large home. I've had American Home Shield for eight to ten years and they have been reliable. Plus, the reps have been excellent. I called and made a claim on a Saturday and the contractor called me right back. They had a busy day but they fit us in.

They put us in at the last appointment and I was thankful because my mother is elderly and grouchy when she doesn’t have her AC. I also have a sister with cerebral palsy, so it can be bad when I do not have the AC. The contractor was quick, efficient, and extremely friendly. Also, my AC was cleaned out when it was fixed, which was an extra thing and I was not charged. The AC was fixed quickly and they got here a lot earlier than they told me originally. I have recommended Home Shield to friends and family. I tell them that they should use AHS because they are professional and quick in their response. Literally, it is in seconds that I get a response back.

When we had an air-conditioner problem, the contractor had to come out and diagnose the AC and see which parts are needed to replaced which have to be ordered through American Home Shield. But American Home Shield only pays for putting the fluids back in. The people that did the work was great, but the lady that scheduled the service was uncooperative.

Then the ice maker on our refrigerator was not working properly, so we filed another claim for it. The representatives that we spoke to were great. The contractor they sent was very personable. He had to order parts for the repair and came back in four days for the actual repair. The ice maker has been working great ever since. I am now dealing with a second claims issue with American Home Shield (AHS). I should have left after my previous claim issue was handled (with me coughing up $150 to finally get someone to do their job). My current claim involves my freezer not working properly. Chain of Events: Repairman came to my home and explained the fan needed to be replaced. ONE WEEK LATER, the repairman came and replaced the fan. A few days later I noticed the items in my freezer were softening. I turned the freezer to its highest setting. One day later, ice cream was seeping out of my freezer. I called AHS immediately. 2 WEEKS LATER the repairman came back to my home and told me the refrigerator needs Freon, but someone else would have to perform the job.

It has been 3 days since then and nobody has contacted me or come to my home to perform the repair. I called the repairman to check when they would be sending someone over to fill the Freon. The repairman responded by saying AHS is refusing to change the compressor. NO ONE EVER MENTIONED TO ME THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE COMPRESSOR. I immediately called AHS and was informed that the compressor was apparently bad due to negligence on my part. The repairman has now claimed that he asked me to turn off the refrigerator.

If the repairman had actually requested I turn off my refrigerator, I would have. Why would I want to waste electricity on an appliance that was not working? In addition, turning off the refrigerator would require me to get behind the appliance, how would they expect me to move a refrigerator by myself (I am 5’2” and over 50 years of age)? I do not understand why the repairman would not just turn off my refrigerator while he was at my home if it in fact needed to be turned off. To top it all off, AHS stated they have to take the repairman’s word that I was supposedly negligent. Well I did some research, and it seems I am not the only one dealing with these liars.

This is our second time to use our home warranty. The first time, it took over 6 weeks for our oven to be fixed- I have a family of 6 in my home. Three things needed to replaced, and we kept getting jumped back and forth between the contractor and AHS. What each group was telling us was completely opposite. Now, we have had a broken dishwasher for almost 9 weeks. The first contractor they sent kept saying parts were sent broken and he couldn't fix it. SO we requested a new guy.

The new guy replaced 5 parts, and the dishwasher still won't work. He couldn't convince AHS to replace it, so he replaced the remaining parts of the dishwasher and it STILL won't work- apparently that's what it takes to get a new appliance. Again, we have a family of 6. This is unbelievable. Now we have to wait yet again to see if they let us replace our appliance with a new one and we've been told that we will have to pay for an upgrade because our appliance is stainless steel. This is crazy long to have to wait for things to be fixed. I do not see how this is beneficial whatsoever. Surely this can't be normal. Who on earth would pay for something that you have to wait this long for? We have called repeatedly too and I we are just sent in circles and told this is normal.

If I could rate zero stars I would. Our first couple experiences with this business has been a mess. After a full day of not being able to make contact with anyone by phone ("due to systems being down") we finally received a call back to fix our stove. We communicated two issues ((1) burners wouldn't turn on and (2) the exhaust fan was not working) - the technician comes out and literally spends 5 min looking at the stove and states that he doesn't know how to fix. After a $75 charge and now I'm working on the stove and manage to fix item #1 on my own.

We call American Home Shield back to schedule someone to fix the other issue and now they tell us it will be another $75 charge because the person who took the notes on our first call did not label that there were two issues. So after all of this - I fix issue #1 on my own, pay a $75 for nothing and now I need to pay an additional $75 for someone to come out and fix the second issue? This is either a big joke or a fraud - either way I will make sure to tell everyone I can to not use this company.

I submitted a claim 3 days ago for a pipe leak in the bathroom, someone came today, took some pictures. And another pipe leak in the basement, they also took some pictures. And right after the contractor left, my case was marked as completed. I was surprised, there is no resolution given and the case was marked as completed. What is going on?

I called American Home Shield, transferred several times, was told my case is pending, the website is not accurate. I re-opened the case, it was showing in American Home Shield website, then after 30 minutes, I checked back, the new case I opened disappeared from their website. Then someone called me, they said the first leak in the bathroom is not covered, and the second leak doesn't exist (this is wrong, it is obviously leaking). If I want to get a second opinion, I have to pay $75 to have another assigned contractor come, it would be their "approved" contractor. To me, American Home Shield is a completely scam, they tried to get your money, while nothing got repaired. I will need to cancel my membership, or maybe file a small claim with the court for this.

When they had fixed that, they didn't set it up the way it was supposed to be. Some of the contacts for the wires just melted the wire completely. It overheated and it killed our air conditioning. We had the guy come out and he fixed all that up and got it all done, put in the right parts where it was supposed to be and hooked us up. It started working as soon as he finished. It was high 80s in the house but after he was done, it had dropped two or three degrees already. We didn’t have any problems at all since then.

It's been over a year that I've been with AHS and I would recommend them anytime. I had an AC claim and they were very good. They were so pleasant and thoroughly explained things. I did not have any problem with them at all. I had asked them to please call me so that I’d know -- I have dogs and I like to get the dogs put away. And they did call me before they came. The only problem that I had wasn’t really with them. I had to buy a good bit of Freon, and I wanted them to fix the leak. They explained it in depth to me about how you have to replace some lines and you get into a big deal and then you’re almost better off to just replacing the unit.

And so, they said it should hold. If it doesn’t hold me for a year, then they may have to go back and see what else they could do. If it’s several months later and then it goes out again, I’d have to pay another service and then Freon again, which would cost quite a bit of money. And if it continues to happen, then I would want something done. But I think I’m okay with it for right now.

I typically submit my claims with American Home Shield by calling in. I had a great experience with the AC claim I filed with them. The AC guys did great. They came out the next day and fixed stuff right on the spot. They were very professional and very timely, too. However, I have made at least a half dozen calls for the refrigerator and the dishwasher, but nobody had ever called back or followed up. And apparently, nobody wants to work on our dishwasher or refrigerator and American Home Shield said they assigned it to some company. At some point, I got an email that gave us the name of the work people, but nobody ever contacted us. I’ve followed up on both of those multiple times and I’m told different things at different times. I don’t have an endless amount of time to keep calling and checking on it every day.

When I first called in the refrigerator claim, American Home Shield asked the brand of it and I told them it was Sub-Zero. But when the first company came out and looked at the fridge, they tried to be helpful and said that it needed Freon, but they couldn’t do it and they don’t work on Sub-Zero. They said they would let American Home Shield know, but we didn’t hear anything for a week after that until I followed up on it. They assigned it to somebody a week ago. I called back several days later and they said, “Well, if they don’t respond by tomorrow, we’ll assign it to somebody else.” So we have a dishwasher that’s not working. And the refrigerator and freezer are cooling but not well. It’s frustrating.

And then, when they finally picked up, it also took a long time. It's way easier to do it online. You just put in the information in the website and you get an electronic confirmation so that you know that your message was received. However, there were some sorts of mix-up in one of the times I filed a claim online. It was for a previous condition but it was not a repeat service call. It was a new one but it was a similar trade, but by the time the message got to the plumber, they had been told by American Home Shield that it was for an existing issue.

My last call with American Home Shield was for the toilet. The technician came and made an adjustment and it was fixed. It's still running a little bit, but I've just been busy at work and I couldn't wait for them since the contractors have different window. But overall, American Home Shield is definitely worth utilizing. You just need to be aware that you can consolidate calls within the same trade. The plumber showed up early on Memorial Day, a day when everybody should be taking off. He was well-informed and he entertained a lot of my questions about plumbing. The repair work took him 45 minutes and the problem was fixed. It turned that the previous homeowner had installed something improperly in the garbage disposal unit. The solution was as simple as blowing a clog out and flipping a couple of fittings around, and we were all set. Everything is running now as it should. Thus far, it has been a good and super efficient experience that I've had with AHS and I've been very satisfied with them.

Originally, I had this subsidiary company that was associated with American Home Shield and I never realized that it was a different entity. The other one that was located as a subsidiary of AHS was terrible and awful so I dropped them after two years because American Home Shield covered more and the prices were good. When my wife fell over the door on the dishwasher and bent it, the gentleman that they sent was able to fix everything manually and it worked. The interaction was very good and everything was perfect. When I submitted the claim, I called them. I like it better than going online and in case it breaks, I'll call them again. It’s very easy and I like the way the payment is. They take the money out the next day in case you cancel. I did once when I thought the ice maker in my fridge broke but it was just blocked so the way they do it is good.

We've had American Home Shield since we had the house in 2005 or 2006 and my experience with them has been great. We've only had to call them three times since we've had AHS but each time, everyone's been really professional and did their job very well. Recently, the refrigerator was leaking and it was making this sizzling sound in the back like it was frying. I filed a claim to AHS online, which was awesome, and the technician was able to repair it. He said it had tangles at the back and the water was dripping on the coils which was making that frying sound. Since then, my ref has been working perfectly.

The technician had me waiting around the house all day long. I was told he would be here between 1:00 and 4:00, but it was about 7:30 that night before he got here. He said he got behind due to the weather. It was pouring down rain and he was out there working on that thing in the rain. When he left here a little after 8:00, he said he had one more stop to make. But other than that, he was good and professional. The technician said he put a little Freon and then did some other work to it. The air conditioning unit had stopped cooling and one of the lines had frozen up. But the unit has been doing all right so far. It’s just an old unit.

There is only one other thing that I have a problem with. A hot water line burst under my house and when the technician came out to fix it, they said it wasn’t covered on the everyday warranty. That didn't make sense. I said, “What do you mean everyday? We use that line everyday.” The lady that I spoke with from American Home Shield said that she had talked to a supervisor. But I think she just put me on hold for a couple of minutes and then came back. I don’t think she knew what she was talking about. She and that guy were kinda collaborating on the phone. I told her that everything should be covered if I put in a repair. I use my air conditioner every day and it was covered.

The technician fixed the issue but I had to come out of pocket for that. Plus, I had to pay the $75 service fee for them coming out. But that was the only bad experience that I had with American Home Shield so far and they've been doing pretty good otherwise. When I submitted the claim for the AC over the phone, the representative was good and nice. She gave me a timeline and the technician's name. They also sent me something on my cellphone so I could track his progress when he was coming down. American Home Shield is a great company and I would tell others to try them.

Also, I wasn’t sure if my sink was leaking and I couldn’t tell if it was leaking through the back. I was afraid of any kind of moisture getting to the wood. So, I finally called American Home Shield and they sent the contractor the next day. Supertech Appliance Repair, the contractor, told me that the refrigerator was frozen on the inside of the freezer. They took a little bit to figure it out, but they did a good job. He told me that sometimes, by pouring a little bit of warm water, the ice will dissolve. It might not leak but if it’s something more serious and it’s leaking, I should call AHS. Usually, I just tell them what’s wrong then they work on it and I find that it’s working.

Long story short, a lot of the work on our new home was "just for show" and wasn't done properly - including a high-power electrical line from the back panel to our utility room that wasn't buried or otherwise protected, a toilet that was plumbed-in incorrectly, p-traps missing from under the sinks, etc. Well, we called AHS as soon as we realized the electrical line was exposed, and the tech explained that it was improperly installed. Here's the catch: It was "working". Because there was no "failure" of the appliances, AHS refused to fix it. (Even though "improper installation" is covered under my contract.) Four months later, this LIVE power line was hit by a lawnmower (and could have seriously injured or even killed the young man pushing it).

I called AHS to confirm it was a covered incident before requesting a tech for repair. Same tech came out and AHS then refused to authorize the work despite the previous report that it was improperly installed and presented a safety hazard. (AFTER charging my $75 fee for dispatching a tech.) AHS claimed no prior knowledge of the improper installation and closed the claim. Again.

Same song with the plumbing. Plumber reported that toilet plumbing was improperly installed, but because it will flush, it's considered "working". For all we know, it could be flushing bio-waste into our drinking water, but AHS rep literally said, "we really don't care". Keep in mind, we have now had 3 technicians out at $75 a visit to tell us they aren't authorized by AHS to do the work for one reason or the other. (Even though both issues are due to improper installation - which is covered by our contract.) One technician (plumber) tried to sell me a $300 out-of-pocket diagnosis and estimate.

We've paid so much out of pocket to fix things that should have been covered by this warranty, but are discovering that there are loopholes and clauses for just about every instance of appliance or system failure that allow them to reject and deny any claim. The front page of their website says, "If we can't repair the covered item - we'll replace it or offer an alternative solution!" - which is 100% misleading. It's not about "can't"... they "won't" repair or replace covered items, and their contract is deliberately duplicitous. I thought I had good coverage, but I was so, so wrong. If we can't repair the covered item - we'll replace it or offer an alternative solution! I'm more than $1000 out of pocket already (not including the $600+ to AHS) and still without a working water heater, washer/dryer, and one toilet that is "just for show". This warranty seems like little more than a big scam.

Twenty four hours later I did not receive a call. I called AHS again and was told if I didn't hear from contractor in 4 hours to call back. Four hours later still no call. I was then told that another company would contact me within 24 more hours, that didn't happen. I again contacted AHS and was authorized to use an outside contractor. I had to pay a service fee upfront to this outside contractor of 95.00.

I then reached out to AHS to see how I would be reimbursed, since I paid twice for 1 service call that I did the legwork to set up and their response is I am not eligible for any reimbursement. This makes no sense, if they had been able to provide a contractor within their stated time I would have only had to pay 125.00, and nothing to the vendor. In my case I am being double charged because they couldn't supply me with a vendor. This is stealing. This is the worst that I have ever been treated in my 53 years. Has to be illegal.

We had a leaking pipe under the sink behind the wall. We could hear it, but we couldn’t see it. We submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out the contractor the same day which was really important since it was behind the wall, we had to shut the water hose to the house to prevent damage. Without water in the summer in Texas is not that pleasant. The contractor had to cut into the wall and cut a small place as possible, so it’s not that noticeable even if you are under the sink. He got it fixed within a couple hours after he arrived. He did a great job.

We’ve dealt with AHS a couple of times on our central air and we were able to get same-day service, which is also important because it has been hot in Houston. So, they were able to resolve the issue quickly both times. It’s an older unit, so we might have some additional problems and we’re considering replacing the unit when we get a chance. Having AHS is worth the money. It gives you peace of mind and minimizes your risk for unexpected expenses. I have renewed because I have been pleasantly surprised that it has helped.

American Home Shield gave us good service when they did our air conditioner. Last year in September, we had the same issue and there was a company who replaced both of the coils in the unit. It was a brand new two-year-old unit. They also replaced the Freon for both of the units. When I turned on the air conditioner in April, it wasn’t cooling the house and when I called American Home Shield and they said I have to fill out another claim, I asked why I had to file another claim when it was the same problem.

The company who replaced the Freon and the coils guaranteed the work for a year. But since I went through AHS, their 60 days overrode that year and I had to start with a new claim. So I was stuck with another $500 bill, which I wasn’t very happy with. The gentleman was really nice though. I can’t live without the air conditioner, so I had the guy fix it. I submit a claim online if I need a service and recently, I put one in for my residence. Then I was expecting a call from His and Hers Plumbing and they never called. Four days later, I tried to call them with the number that was provided to me on my email confirmation from American Home Shield and they said they didn’t have any of my information. They were they kind running around, so I just hanged up. I was hoping that someone else would get in touch with me and nobody ever did. Then, I had to go travel and when I came back, the problem was still lingering around. So when I get a chance, I need to go and tell AHS that don’t need to have a service done by His and Hers Plumbing because I’m not happy with them.

I wish American Home Shield would add more service people to their network because it looks like the minute you put something in, the contractors grab it not because they’re ready to do the service but because they have the job. And whenever they want, they contact you or they give you a time. But it’s not American Home Shield's fault. It's just that sometimes, they cannot control the people that they contract with.

I was having problems with my refrigerator's ice maker and the fan above the range along with some light in there so I called AHS. The agent I spoke with was excellent and very knowledgeable. I did not realize until she pointed to me that I could have one service call and fee as long as I set it up at the same time with the same vendor. She was very gracious to explain that to me and that saved me a $100, so it worked out great. Then, the two individuals who came out were excellent. They came a little early which was a great surprise because usually people are running late. They looked at the ice maker and were able to diagnose the problem within two minutes. They then replaced both the two sensing units and now the unit is working beautifully.

Then, what I thought was an electrical problem for the fan over the range was just a lever that could have been thrown inadvertently by me when I was trying to figure out why the light wasn’t working. It took about five seconds to show me where that was, and then the fan started working. They had to order a bulb and came back the next week with it and replaced the broken one with no additional charge. I couldn’t have been happier with their service and the level of professionalism. All in all, it was a great experience. I've already told a number of people that they should have a plan such as AHS. Also, I've also used AHS on a rental property because I'm impressed with them and I had nothing but good luck with them.

We just moved in and wanted to get a fresh start with keys. We reached out to a couple of folks and then to American Home Shield, and they had by far the best price. I called somebody to submit a claim and then they put me in touch with a specific vendor, and then it was all done. It was very hands-free for me. The service was good and it went really well. For those considering signing up with AHS, I’d say do it. My experience with them has been good, so far.

My electricity came off and the contractor American Home Shield sent was able to fix it. But I’ve been having an issue with my air condition. A contractor AHS sent fixed it last year of August and it didn’t feel like it was fixed when they fixed it. But from August to September, it got cold so we didn’t have a chance to really test it out, but now that we had to turn it again this year there’s no cool air. The people that fixed it evidently fixed it wrong. I put in a work order since May for American Home Shield and I’m just now getting someone to come out about the air conditioning. Now, it’s June and it’s still not fixed.

This gentleman came out and stated that the previous contractor who worked on my air condition put everything wrong and overfilled the Freon and that’s all he stated. Not that it was fixable. Despite the type of coverage I have on the home, I still went to pay $1,100 out of pocket and it’s still wrong. I’m trying to get it resolved as fast as possible and not just patched up. If I had known that, I would have had the air conditioning replaced myself for the money that I’m spending to have a repair.

But I never had any issues directly with American Home Shield. It's just the contractor they sent. Whenever I submit a claim with AHS over the phone sometimes it’s difficult having to press all these buttons, but other than that, it wasn’t difficult to put claim in. I normally get a quick response from American Home Shield. And I would recommend them to a friend.

I didn’t have the warranty the first three years when I bought my house ‘cause this is brand new. But after that, I bought it and I’ve had it ever since. In my old house I had American Home Shield and then I tried the other one and I didn’t like it and I’ve come back. I switched in March from First American and American Home Shield's service is more prompt. They do a better job.

When my AC had a leak I submitted the claim online on a Sunday and the contractor was here by Tuesday, which still seemed like a long time when I had no air, but they fixed it that day. Also, the contractor was professional. He checked everything over to see if there’s a problem some place else that might have caused it. This second time a wire had melted so he replaced the wire and everything was fine. So far I’ve had no other trouble. Going with AHS is worth it. It's peace of mind to know that if something happened that there's somebody that could come repair it and it's not gonna cost an arm and a leg.

No cool air was coming out of our AC, so I called in over the phone with an American Home Shield representative. She was very friendly, understanding, and quick in getting me worked in with the repair people that came out, especially over the weekend. The repair people were very professional. They knew what they were doing and I actually left them there to get my computer in the office. They even followed up with a phone call to let me know what they had done and what to expect, so it was great. The AC has been working just fine since the repair.

One of the bathtub faucets was not working and I had a problem with the flush for the toilet. American Home Shield decided the time and date, and the technician came in the right time and he was really good. He fixed the disposal in the kitchen, and then he went to the flush and fixed it. He changed everything even without telling me and after he was done, he told me what he did. He was very professional. With the faucet, he told me there was a part inside it that was not working, so he brought another part and within a week, he came and fixed it once he got the part. He called me within that week and everything was done. I have friends that want to go with other companies, and I tell them I've tried AHS and that I highly recommend it.

He ordered the part on Monday and then, he was back on Friday to fix it so it was resolved quickly. The technician was very professional, pleasant and he did a good job. Also, the website navigation was fine and I just did another one today. I’ve been satisfied every time I’ve used AHS, so I have no complaints and I would recommend them.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since the late 90’s. It’s been a long time and I have too much money invested in them so I wouldn’t leave them. Recently, I called them to put in a claim and told them what was going on. This house was built about 35 years ago and it has a popcorn ceiling throughout. Cook Construction repaired the ceiling last May 9th and they had to cut some holes in it to replace the drain from the shower in the master bathroom. They did a great job and everything was fine. To my knowledge, AHS fixes but do not paint and that was understandable so I’m taking care of that. I just called AHS again because the washing machine is on the fritz and there were problems returning my call after they issued a confirmation number. The guy’s supposed to be monitoring that part and I have no complaints.

I called American Home Shield for this claim but I like the online submission process as well. On the other hand, we had a contractor last year on a water heater issue and he got a little pushy to replace the water heater. We knew there was nothing wrong with it and it didn’t need to be replaced. We were pretty sure it just needed the thermostat turned up. We said that if that doesn’t work, then we’ll replace it. He got a little pissy and used a language. But we got what we wanted. He turned the temperature up and it worked fine. We can’t do it ourselves because it’s an internal adjustment and that’s why I had to call somebody. It's been a whole year and it works just fine. I recommend American Home Shield.

My wife said that the plumbers who came were nice and courteous and they fixed the problem but, they had to cut out a hole in my ceiling and did not patch it up. Other than that, I'd still recommend AHS.

Water began pouring through the ceiling onto the floor of my garage. AHS would not cover the leak saying at first that a strap was missing and then that the house had settled. I went to my own plumber who found the leak on a drain. AHS would still not cover it because they said that it was not unobstructed and only visible if you removed the tile. Oh please. Just don't use these folks or you will be sorry.

I've been a member with American Home Shield for some years now. I was experiencing a problem with the plumbing in my yard that was affecting my 2 bathrooms downstairs. The person I talked to on the phone never told me that the drain wasn't covered and neither did I know that it wasn't because it not noted as such. Well, they sent a technician out to my house and he did nothing but looked at the problem and 1 of the 2 bathrooms. He never even took any tools from his truck to even fake it. But yet I am being charged $100.00 service fee for something that was not even attempted to be fixed. I am very upset with AHS. I have 2 houses under contract with this company but at this time I am considering pulling the plug.

We were an AHS client for 4 years. Had minimal service calls and the simple issues were always easily fixed and done. However when it came to critical issues with appliances or air conditioning is when things fell apart. Our central air unit was not performing up to par. We made the request for service, the tech came out, diagnosed the system, was out of freon. The unit was filled less than 12 months prior to this with freon The tech advised us the unit was old and should be replaced. But he would like to do a leakage check of the unit. He had to put in a request for the check with AHS. Then come back to do the check once it was authorized. This would mean someone would have to take off work again, rearrange busy schedules once the leak check was authorized. Then if it was a leak, it was going to cost us $900 to fill the unit with freon or R22.

With no air, and the temps reaching 80+ degrees in the house, we bit the bullet, bought a new unit for $6,000 and cancelled the leak check. 3 days later our dishwasher began to leak. It's Sunday night Memorial Day weekend, and we have water everywhere, and the water would not stop backing up in the unit. We bailed out about 12 gallons of water, and finally were able to just shut the water off. We made the call to AHS to set an appointment. We had to remove the front panel to the units door, as it was full of water, and continued to drain onto the floor.

My call was returned on Wednesday which was 24 hours after the first day of business. When I explained the problem with the dishwasher the company told me it would be 3 weeks before they could to us to look at the unit. With a household of 6 people, no hot water in the kitchen is not a good thing. It limits your cooking, and total use of your kitchen. We were using paper plates, and plasticware for 4 days. We again bit the bullet and purchased a new dishwasher with no help from AHS. So in a matter of 2 weeks we spent over $ 7,500 that was not in the budget. Both of these items should have been covered by our contract but due to the hoops to jump thru on the AC unit and the dishwasher technician being the only contractor with AHS in the area, it cost us a lot of money. We feel AHS does not come thru when needed.
