I've been with American Home Shield for about five years now and I haven't had any major concerns with them. But, I've had one bad experience with them when I first got them. I had to go over the girl's head who I talked to and I had to go to a supervisor who rectified it right away. It took me a while to get to that point, though, because she didn't think it was necessary to send a repairman out then. But, I tried to tell her that it was, so I had to go over her head.
The latest claim I filed with them was for my heat pump system. I have a maintenance on that and when the maintenance people came out, they said that I had a leak and that I had no Freon left. I called American Home Shield and when a tech came out, he basically just checked what I told him what's going on. He determined that there was no leak and that I had even excess Freon in the system. He also said that if it didn't have Freon, why would it be blowing cold air.
I never thought it was a Freon problem too, but I wanted to make sure before I turned it on for the summer that it had Freon in it. I think my heat pump is not cooling efficiently because when I put it on 77, it only will cool up to 80 degrees. It's just having a hard time stabilizing the temperature and pushing the system because the unit is old. It's 12 years old and it's taxing it because of this hot weather. However, the maintenance company did not agree with American Home Shield. The manager from the maintenance company said that the tech American Home Shield sent out was lying. He also said that my system wouldn't last through summer. So, I have contradictory reports.

I file my claims with American Home Shield over the phone and my interactions with the reps have been good. The technicians who have come out were also fine. However, last night it took a while to get through to somebody. I got scheduled for Monday and the technicians are not out here yet. But American Home Shield had been fairly responsive in the past. And I would recommend them.

We submitted a claim online to AHS regarding our air conditioner and the process was great. It was quick and easy. The contractor couldn't have been better. He was out there the same day, didn’t mess around and got his work done and left. It was very good service.

My dishwasher wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield and the contractor that they sent out was fabulous but it took them a long time to get the parts. The tech had to do two circuit boards, the main board and the backup board, and that took a while. And there really wasn’t any communication until I called them back at National Platinum. They got the part in about three weeks, then I set up an appointment and their guy showed up. He diagnosed and fixed the problem, then he was gone in less than an hour.

I bought this house in March, closed in April, and I moved in. There was a situation where a pipe has some shield in the outside that's supposed to keep it from freezing when it freezes. But it froze and it didn’t leak unless I turn the water on and put pressure on the line, or it wasn’t noticeable if it was leaking prior to that so really what it came down to was a frozen copper water pipe that burst inside the wall. We called American Home Shield and made a claim. The plumbing guy from Plumbers Inc. took almost a week to come out because they were out of Riverside and the repair guy covers a tremendous territory over here in the Prescott area so if the pipe was leaking, and I couldn’t have gotten him over here any sooner, then I would've just had to bust into the wall and deal with it myself.
It seems to me that the insurance doesn’t care too much about what kind of problem I was having. If it takes a guy a week to get here, there's something wrong with the process and they don’t give any indicator of recognizing a priority. But when he came out, he did a good job and I have no problem with him. He was just doing what he was instructed to do by the company. But he didn't take care of it immediately. He had to come back after they tore the wall to see exactly what the damage was, and that took three days.
There was a restrictor device on the outside of the faucet because it was used for irrigating, so it wouldn't build up a lot of pressure and bust my irrigation system. That being on there was what really caused the pipe to burst in the first place. The guy had inadvertently left it on there, and it still had water in the line, and it froze. When I put my finger over the faucet and I could stop the water, I thought that it was so strange. I went on to do something else, and I heard the panic call from my wife that our closet was flooded with water. I went in, and the water was coming out of the wall. I cleaned it all up, and it's not continuing to flow out of there.
The deal was, I knew the plumber who did the plumbing for the house and I had their name, but American Home Shield wouldn’t authorize those people to come out and look at it. I accepted the fact they wouldn't do it and didn’t ask them for an explanation. Somebody else has purchased the policy for me and I was at American Home Shield's mercy.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My air conditioning quit and after the submission of the claim, which went quickly, American Home Shield got in contact with someone to come out and check it out. It took a couple of days, which would be normal, before a company came out. They checked it out and figured out what was wrong with it. The condenser and coil were both bad so then we wind up replacing it. We now have a completely new unit. It was my first experience with the home warranty and it went well. I would recommend American Home Shield.

When my sump pump wasn’t running I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and it was great. I used to have a warranty placed at my old house up in Newark and it was hard to schedule. It was hard to get someone to answer the phone. And down here, this process works so easy. The technician showed up when he said he would be here. He explained the process to get approval to replace the sump pump. He took care of it right away and was gone in a couple of hours and since then the sump pump has been working great. Based on that first experience compare to that torture I've had to deal with other companies, AHS has been a joy. Just that one interaction has been wonderful. Get American Home Shield.

I've been dealing with American Home Shield since 2003. I've had a lot of run-ins with them throughout the years and the customer service on some instances really sucked. Most of it had to do with our house being an older home that had an oil furnace and there are very few people that can deal with oil furnaces. Some of the contractors they’ve sent in the past have been horrible. They’ve not been qualified to deal with an oil furnace. And then, one time they sent somebody that said they replaced the part but they didn’t. Throughout the years, we went on many winters without a furnace in a very cold house due to the said issues with the contractors.
I recently had trouble with the heater through the winter and the guy that came said he couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I still couldn’t get the furnace to work. I had to do it manually by changing the thermostat. I had to call a third time and they sent the same contractor to work on it and he said, “I can't find anything wrong with it. I don't know what it is." I stood there with this young man in front of the thermostat that I had to keep messing with to get the heat to come on and I said, “Listen, have you thought that maybe there's something wrong with the thermostat?” “Ah, well, I guess I'll change it out.” He changed the thermostat out and it's been working ever since. But since when does the customer have to tell the guy coming to fix something, me advising him in what he should do?
I was widowed two years ago and to be in this house by myself and have no heat and it's a good thing it didn’t go out when my husband was ill because I don't know what I would have done because he wasn’t well. So, I'm not happy with American Home Shield. And I'm glad I don’t have to deal with them as I have sold my home and I'm just waiting to close. I am moving into a senior housing apartment.
With my most recent claim, I had a plumbing leak in the crawlspace and so I called them. The plumber came within a couple of days which was nice and it worked out just fine. He was thorough and did a good job. So, there have been some good times with American Home Shield but they’ve been far out-shadowed by the personnel that they sent to respond. I have about a three inch stack of times I've had to call American Home Shield and then I have to call them back again and again and said, “Please don’t send the same person,” but they continue to send the same people who don’t seem to get the job done.
And then when I call to have somebody come to my house, I'd be on the phone for sometimes 45 minutes waiting for them to answer. The only way I got around that was by talking to a couple of realtors that I know and they said, “Well, here’s a person that you can call that bypasses that.” And that’s what I've been able to do for the last two years. I've been calling this other number that doesn’t go through the same 800 number that’s listed on the internet. So, I bypassed the system a little bit, but that didn’t give any more confidence in people coming to the house.
I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield because the people that they contract with don’t seem to be the most qualified candidate. Although when I had an issue with something other than the oil furnace, the people that they sent seemed to be qualified. So I'm basing the whole system on me being stuck with the oil furnace, which has been the whole crack of the issue from the time we moved here in 2003. It's been the lack of qualified people to work on my oil furnace and also them being responsive to my need when I say, “I know there's a company that’s up the street. It may cost me more but I'm willing to pay more if you can send that qualified person,” and they would never do that.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I've been with AHS for a long time and they have a good response all the time. They take care of customers promptly. I usually submit claims online and the reps are effective. C Mayes Plumbing was sent by American Home Shield recently and they were good and quick. They were on time and they sent me a text message with tracking. They told me that they needed the snake and then it worked. The only thing I complained about was when I had my water line leaking and AHS sent me coverage for only $1000. Other than that, everything is good.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim since my air conditioner was out. The rep was very helpful and timely for sending in the email to let me know when the contractor was gonna come who then called me, emailed and let me know when they were on their way. The technician from Cabot Mechanical who came was young, professional and knew what he was doing. The air conditioner wouldn’t come on and it didn’t need any Freon. It had something to do with the thermostat and he fixed it. Since then, I haven’t had any more issues with it. I was satisfied and I would highly recommend AHS. It’s worth the service fee every month because when you need them, they’re there and the response is prompt. Also, if you didn’t have it, you gotta find somebody then it’s gonna cost you a lot more versus having a service contract that you pay every month.

I set up a date and time between 8 and 12. The contractor came around 10-ish and he was really polite. He looked at my unit and told me he knew what the problem was. He went out and got the part and he put it in and that was it. He was at the house for 15 minutes. We were chit-chatting about just life in general. He's really pleasant. American Home Shield is a good company I've had a great experience with them. We had a problem with the dryer as it wasn’t heating properly. But that was taken care of by AHS. Then we had a claim recently for some outside faucets that were leaking. The contractor filed the claim with AHS letting them know that the work was gonna be a bit more expensive. They were waiting to hear back from AHS, but they never heard back from them. When I looked at their claim file, AHS said it was closed, as if the claim had been resolved. But this wasn’t resolved and no work has been done. The money has already been taken from my account and nothing has happened. Although, I haven't contacted AHS about this issue as of yet.
I go online to submit claims with AHS, but I have called and spoken with them before and our interactions were smooth. The contractors are good and the majority of their contractors that they send resolve the issue with no problem. Some of them, their work is better than others, so, it’s a hit-and-miss thing. Every once in a while, I run into one of those fly-by-night people that look like they are on the list not because of the quality of work, but because AHS offers steady work. However, their work does not speak volumes and is not top-notch quality. If I was to have hired them myself and paid them, I would be very upset. But because I could always contact AHS to complain about the work, and they possibly will send them back out or give me another contractor, it hasn’t been a big issue.
I would tell others to sign up with AHS right away. I wish I would have known about them 20 years ago as they would have saved me a ton of money. I’ve been in the rental business for 15 years. And I’ve spent countless dollars on fixing appliances and replacing appliances whereas I could have been protected through a company like AHS, and I wouldn’t have had these major issues.

But he knew what he was doing and he did a good job.
Our experience with AHS has been pretty straightforward. They were always diligent about the job. Their representatives are always very good when I talk to them over the phone. We've really had good experiences since we've been using American Home Shield. We're in South Texas and with this heat, it was a little frustrating. But the contractor was fine, and there wasn't anything they could do. My microwave was broken. I called American Home Shield and the representative who I talked to on the phone was good. When the contractor came out, he took a look at it but could not take the microwave out. There is a vent on the outside of the house and there was a bird's nest on it, so he thought that there might be feathers all the way to the microwave and the AC was damaged because of the bird's nest. He just said, "Call your company," and then he left. I got the vent cleaned and then when the microwave was removed, it was done in three minutes. I had the microwave left in the garage and then I called American Home Shield to tell them that the microwave was out and I didn't see any bird feather. I asked them to look at it but I didn't get any reply.
After three weeks, I called Home Depot and asked them to give me a new microwave to replace the broken one. I couldn't wait that long without a microwave so I ended up buying a new one. Then finally, I got ahold of this guy and he was saying that they will not fix it. The claim was rejected. I asked for a second opinion and told them that they could come and take a look. He said they don't do that. I paid $125 for American Home Shield to send a person to my house, but he didn't fix it and they could not even give me a reason and my $125 back. I've also had to call about five times in about a month to get my service and an answer and it's not even worth the wait. I didn't get anything--no email, text, and phone call. I could not even get a second opinion. Before, American Home Shield was good, but this experience was horrible. I'm really mad.

They've only had to come a second time to fix the same issue maybe twice in the last three years. Usually, getting them back out takes a few days or a week at the most. But once, it took some time. Their reps are professional and friendly over the phone. However, sometimes, you have to wait a little bit until you reach someone. And within 24 hours again, Reflection Pool visited my home, determined what the problem was, and said it would probably take three days to get the part in. I got a call the very next day and was told that they have the part. The tech came over and installed it and it has worked beautifully. The issue was over with and taken care of absolutely beautifully. Also, my interactions with the contractor have been absolutely outstanding. They've been good enough that I hired them to do some other work for me.
With the claim I filed that had to do with the hot water tank, I called it in. The contractor contacted me then came and ran some tests in the house. They've been very good. The plumber said it looked like it needed to be replaced but that would be determined by American Home Shield, so he left. However, I have never heard a single word from American Home Shield whether they declined it or accepted it. You can't contact them directly too. There's nobody who answers the phone. The only way you can do it is to go online, pay $75, and put in a claim. I've sent an email and I've been waiting for them for a month now.
Hello, Burt. We apologize that you have experienced some issues with your service request. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

We moved into our new home and the ice maker of the refrigerator stopped working. I didn't even remember that we had gotten an American Home Shield insurance when we purchased the house and my wife just reminded me. I quickly made an account over the internet and submitted a claim. I also made a phone call to make sure the appointment was done correctly. AHS was great. They got back with me within 24 hours and they scheduled an appointment within 72 hours. And then, a gentleman came out and fixed the freezer. He was nice. The ice maker started making ice again and we're all good. It only costed $75.
However, when I made a phone call asking a question on the renewal, the gentleman that I spoke to said we will probably not gonna get a very good rate on AHS because we got a discounted policy through the Realtor when we moved into the house. So, the renewal may be a bit more money. I was interested on how much that would be and they couldn't give me an estimate, which was concerning because it's something that's gonna come out of my pocket. Because of my experience with the contractor with repairing my icemaker, I'd probably sign up and renew it now. But since they're waiting so long and they can't give me a quote right away, then I'll just move on to the next. They have to make their stuff available in a timely manner.

In my most recent claim with American Home Shield, plumbing work was done on my master bathroom and a guest bathroom. Top Notch Plumbing was the company who came out. The guy fixed the guest bathroom but I had issues with the master bath. When he left, everything was okay but during the next day, my master bath started running water again. It was functional but just flushing the toilet in, it would run and then it would stop. It was almost like someone was pouring water. I could hear it in the tank so I called American Home Shield to let them know and they set it back up again with the same company.
Top Notch Plumbing emailed me and that was where the issue started. They told us to reply to the email or call so they would know when do we want them to come back. I replied to the email and didn't get any response back. I also called and left messages but there was no response as well. They emailed back a day later asking us if we wanted the Tuesday 1:00 appointment to which I replied with a yes. I also tried to call again and left a message that I wanted that schedule but there was no response from them again even a day later. When they replied, they said that that appointment was already filled up and it would be better to call the office. At that point, I was really already upset. I replied to their email but they reply back so late.
Finally, they called me and I told them that I was calling them but no one was calling me back. I told the lady I spoke with, Hailey, that their customer service was terrible and that I had been trying to get with them and it shouldn't take four or five days to make an appointment. She answered me that if I didn't want them to serve me, I could call American Home Shield and have someone else out. She then asked me if I wanted the appointment or not. An apology would have gone a long way with me at that time. Instead, I got a nasty feedback from her. I didn't appreciate the unprofessional attitude. She was completely rude. And since I didn't want to delay my toilet repair any longer, I went ahead and made the appointment.
The contractor came back and fixed the toilet. The problem is solved and everything is correct now. I called American Home Shield regarding my issue with them and they made a note on my account that I no longer want their company to service me again ever. I've looked up their reviews online and it made me feel better that everybody was saying that their customer service was terrible. The reps were rude and argumentative. They left a bad taste in my mouth and I was not the only one who experienced it. Overall, American Home Shield had been great. It was just that vendor who was not great at all.

My AC went out and the condenser outside wasn’t cooling. I put in a claim online with AHS and it was easy doing it. However, it took almost a week to get a technician out because AHS set me up with another company which was pretty much unreachable. No one could contact them. I tried. AHS tried. Nothing. I contacted AHS, they checked on it and they set me up with Sherrell Air Conditioning that same day. The Sherrell technician came out the next day, checked everything out quickly, explained what he was gonna do and fixed the AC. The guy was really pleasant. Three days after the AC was fixed, I got an email from the other company saying they were ready to set me up. Everything was fine up until last Thursday. It went out again. A tech was supposed to be coming in today. Hopefully, they can fix it.

I filled out a claim approx two months ago about a well problem. They sent All About Plumbing company to my home. The plumber got out of the van almost asleep yawning all time. He tried to get his tools out the back doors. A great big water heater almost fell out on my driveway. He could not get his tools to fix the problem. He told it could cost as much as $3000.00 if it was the well pump or about $400.00 if it was the switch. It cost me a $133.00 and he said he could not fix it now. I called AHS. They said to get my own plumber and I did. The other plumber fixed in about an hour for $ 200.00. AHS did not pay me my money back for the $200.00.
This month a pipe started leaking in my bathroom. I called them. They said to get my own plumber. I did and sent them the bill. It was $450.00 minus the $120.00 I paid the plumber. They just sent me a letter today 6-15-2018. They would not pay the $320.00 left. Said they did not tell me to do that. Do not deal with these crooks.

This warranty was paid for by the sellers of the home I just purchased. This warranty company is incompetent, the plumber called me 36 hours after I made a request for service. I tried to cancel the service but there is nowhere to cancel when you log in, so I called and waited on hold for what seemed like eternity and ended up hanging up. The dryer company called within an hour of requested service only to tell me they could not come for ten days, I don't think this is a reasonable amount of time for a service call. I ended up paying out of pocket for all and will not call this company again. All in all this is what I expected before I called them. Hope this message reaches anyone considering purchasing a home warranty from American Home Shield.

Contacted American Home Shield to report a complaint against the air conditioning company they referred to conduct a home air conditioning repair. With outside temperatures in the high 90s the a/c company disassembled our unit and stated it would be repaired in 1-2 days. On day 3, I tried contacting the company and they would not answer the phone. I contacted American Home Shield and they were unconcerned about the fact that my family (to include my 68 year old mother, a 2-year old and a 4-year old child) has no a/c in upper 90-degree weather. American Home Shield told me the a/c company had no obligation to me because I was not their customer, I was an American Home Shield customer. I am a very dissatisfied customer and would NOT recommend American Home Shield to anyone!
Good afternoon Erica,

My Whirlpool dishwasher broke on Monday, May 21st, I placed a service call to AHS. The first person I spoken to at AHS was very nice and pleasant, I explain the situation and they will get it assigned to a technician. This is where all the problems begin. The tech call and states she needed the name of the dishwasher- I explain to her that I was at work and will have to call her back to give her the model and serial number. She called me back 10 minutes later and ask if I had the information. I explain to her again that I was at work and I will call her back on tomorrow when I have the information. The next day she has called back and I gave her the information. She then ask what is the refrigerator doing. I explain to her that it was the dishwasher and then she says ok. She then explains to me that they only fix refrigerators and that I will have to call AHS again and set up an another appointment.
Problem number 2, I called AHS and had to explain the situation again and they got it assigned to S&S Appliance Parts and Service LLC which was another nightmare. The technician at S&S Appliance never did call me, I called them to schedule. This is where the problem continues, the person on the phone who was ** said he don’t come out to my area on weekends or after dark. I’m ** by the way, the area that I stay at is a ** neighborhood and all of my neighbors are ** so I didn’t understand that. So I call AHS back and explain what the tech said and see if I can get another company to come out in that case a ** owned company, she said they don’t have it setup like that in their computer system. I said ok fine as long as the issue get resolved.
I paid my deductible and then the tech came out on Thursday, June 7th, who was ** also, very nice and remarkable, told me that they need parts for the dishwasher and he had to order them and they should be in on next Wednesday and then on Friday, June 15 he would put them in. Mind you on Thursday June 14, I got a phone call message from S&S to confirm my appointment. I have taken off of work on the beginning of the day, waited all day for the tech to come back out, then I get a phone call from this ** guy who says the parts didn’t come in. I ask to explain more and he said the parts went to another part of Alabama and that he can reschedule. He never did apologize or anything.
I called AHS back and explain the situation again and see what was going on., he called S&S and they told him that the parts was in and the tech have to come out at the end of the day. I explain to AHS what they told me. I called S&S back and spoken to a very rude ** woman, who told me that I didn’t have an appointment today and my appointment was schedule for June 29th, I said, "No. If my schedule was that then explain to me why I got a phone call on yesterday confirming my appointment." She told me that I was being very rude and she didn’t have to talk or explain anything to me and hung up the phone.
I went to AHS website to confirm the tech from that company and reschedule and just so happened my password and my account has been locked out. I wonder if AHS still going to withdraw money out of my account at the end of the month. AHS and S&S has been the worse company to deal with and when this is over I will be looking to cancel my contract with AHS.

He determined that the key opener was no good anymore. He then had to return and place an order for a new opener. It took about a week and then everything was resolved. I’m very happy and satisfied. The water was not heating through the whole house. I submitted a plumbing claim with AHS and a tech from Total Plumbing came out. He fixed the problem, but because of whatever he did, I couldn’t get any hot water. Then he came back and sold me a new water tank. I told him to let me call up AHS but he said that AHS wouldn't pay for it.
When I eventually called back AHS, they sent Discount Contractors out. Discount's tech told me that the problem was I needed a bigger hot water tank. I did business with this lady from AHS. She called and worked with me, then all of a sudden, nothing. And that was when I got peed off with AHS. Also, when I talked with Total Plumbing's tech again, he was insinuating that I wanted money from them. But I was the one that shelled out the money because I had to pay $90. Even so, Discount put in a checkpoint valve and fixed the situation for right now. But their tech said the problem could happen again because the tank isn’t big enough. All in all, I liked American Home Shield, but I was disappointed with Total Plumbing. I know that they gypped me out of that hot water tank.

I made a request with American Home Shield for a contractor to service the ice-maker. I filed the claim online because it was hard to get through to them and the hold time was too long. But, initially, the experience was not good. The company they sent out did a rush job and didn't correct the problem. They found and fixed a leak in the water valve, but they never addressed the problem with the ice-maker making ice, so we had to call for them to come out again. When they came back, they said a part would have to be ordered, but when they realized that the part couldn't be ordered, they deemed the ice-maker as not fixable and they ended up replacing it. This is the second rental property we had and our experience with this claim was better than what I've had with AHS previously. This time, it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. Submitting it and getting the contractor to make the contact was extremely easy. The contractor was great. I dealt with one of American Home Shield's contractor quite a bit, and they were great but they weren't all that helpful. After they got noticed from Home Shield to deliver my oven, they showed up at my house unannounced and I was at work. And I didn’t schedule anything with them and my girlfriend didn’t. So I called them and told them that they should have left me a voicemail saying they were here. So they said they were sorry and set the delivery up for that Saturday. And on that Saturday, I had a minor car accident, and I couldn’t get across town to get in here, so I called them reasonably early and asked where we were on the list because we might not get there on time. And they said we were the next stop and they were gonna be here in less than an hour and that they didn't have anything else to do.
They were nice and agreed to reschedule it, but they said because it was a warranty placement, they couldn't reschedule it with us then and we'd have to schedule it with Home Shield. They'd give Home Shield a note, and Home Shield would call us on Monday or we could call them. But the Home Shield folks have no idea what the guys were thinking. So then the following Monday, Home Shield didn’t call me which was fine and I didn’t call them. And then on Tuesday afternoon, I got a message on my voicemail while I was at work saying, “We’re here, where are you?” But I hadn’t scheduled anything with them, and Home Shield didn’t. They were really polite but they misdelivered twice and when I had to cancel myself, then they gave me inaccurate information about how I was to schedule it.
So then, when I called the contractor and said, “What’s the deal here? This was the 3rd round and I don’t kind of understand." And they said it had been over 10 days, so they had to ship it back to the manufacturer. I called Home Shield and they said there was gonna be a restocking fee, which wasn’t cheap. So then, after a number of conversations with Home Shield that I had no problem with, then they decided to split the cost of the restocking fee with me.
Then the oven was re-delivered and I was there, and there was no problem with the scheduling but the oven was the wrong size. And it wasn't their fault necessarily, and maybe it was GE’s fault, but what was weird was they convinced me to keep the oven even though it wasn’t satisfactory. I was on the phone with Home Shield, but I couldn’t get through and I was on hold, and I didn’t know if I was to accept the oven or hand it back or if I had to pay another restocking fee. So they sort of convinced me in a nice way to keep it and said it’s gonna be cheaper for us when GE makes good on it because it’s just the wrong size. I called GE and they weren’t helpful.
I called Home Shield back and they were really helpful again. One person I’ve talked with wasn’t so much helpful because he was new, but I talked with four folks and I didn’t feel like I was getting the run-around and three of those times they were outstanding. They spent a lot of time with me on the phone trying to figure it out, and they put me on hold, and they called GE, but they didn’t get any satisfaction from GE. The guy then went to talk to a supervisor and then told me that they'd split the cost with me and that they were sorry this has happened. They were really flexible.
Then they said they were gonna send somebody else out from a different organization. And when they came out and looked at my oven, they said, “We don’t know what those other folks were talking about.” So they installed the oven and it works fine. And I’m happy with the oven. And fortunately, I don’t use an oven much but it was bizarre that it took me months to get the oven delivered. And while I don’t have any complaint with Home Shield, the folks that they contract with and delivered in Portland seemed friendly and diligent but there was some crossed wires somewhere.

We put in a claim for American Home Shield online and then another by phone. The phone process got messed up because we have two policies and it sent them to the wrong place initially, but the online one was nice. Once we had the mix up with the phone call, I had to speak with a representative. It took a ton of time to get someone live on the phone through the number. It was really hard and quite an ordeal. We waited for 15 or 20 minutes trying to get a live person, but once we got them they were super helpful and they got everything fixed.
Then, we love the contractors that came out. We had Gator Drain both times for the plumbing issue and then they sent an appliance person for another claim we had, and everybody’s been great. We have a rental property and we actually had the plumbers come out three times now trying to fix the same problem. That was a little disappointing but the guys were super nice and very efficient. I had started the project with another company that went out of business. And so, they were not able to complete the job.
I ended up having to get shifted to the other company, which was American Appliance Repair and they were good. They came down from Crescent City, which is about a 45-minute drive, and they looked at the parts and ordered the parts, but the parts took a long time to come in. The contractor did the work one evening on the way home because I was here and he was here as well, and it saved us both having to make another appointment. The condenser coil of air conditioner went bad and AHS had to replace it. The submitting the claim part was easy. But the process to get things done was very difficult. Their process is you file a claim and then they'll send a contractor out and his first visit is to assess the problem to determine what it is. So that's one visit. And then you have to make another schedule once they've done that. And they file back with the insurance company and then they give them permission to move ahead to get parts or stuff like that. Once they've got that, then they have to once more submit to execute it. It was a lengthy process and that was my biggest complaint. So I was without air conditioning about three weeks in the process. They need to fix it
The other problem is with the contractor. I know they don’t have full control over it but their policy was, "When we come on this day, you have to be available from anytime between eight in the morning and five at night. And we'll give you half hour notice," and if I miss that thing then I've got to go to the end of the line again. It was very difficult for me as a homeowner just to stay around so that I could be there for when they call and say, "We're half hour away." I am retired but I work part-time so I had to take time off and stuff like that for these visits. As far as them handling the claims and all that, I've had no complaints. They seemed seamless. It's just I'm not terribly fond of the contractors they necessarily use.
But the contractor did a good job. Everything works fine. We've had hot weather and the air conditioner has kept the cool. It doesn’t seem to be losing Freon and I'm keeping an eye on that, like how much it runs and it seems to be holding up fine. I would recommend AHS. I work with contractors and subcontractors all the time so I know what they deal with but I feel they offer a valuable service and it worked well for me. It's just a whole lot of work making it happen.

The hot water tank went bad and I called American Home Shield. Submitting the claim was easy and they said that within 24 hours, someone would call me back. The plumbing office called in an hour and they came out and looked at it the next day. They determined that it needed to be replaced and about three days later, it was. The contractor was very knowledgeable and friendly. They were right on it and were careful not to leave a mess. I’ve been with AHS for a year and it paid for itself. I’m very satisfied and well-pleased with them.

I've got all the paperwork and I just need to get it going. We had a plumbing claim with American Home Shield recently at our Hilton Head House and everything worked very smoothly. The contractor had to come three times, but the plumber was nice and it was a good experience. However, my experience with the air condition people was terrible. They came out the first time and the heat and the cool were not working, so the man told me I needed freon, but then the circuit board was also messed up, so I needed a new circuit board. The man said he would leave and they would order a new circuit board, which would take a week, and they’d call me to schedule the appointment. I said okay and that was somewhere at the beginning of March. I called that Friday, and nothing. They said it was coming the next Friday, and I said okay. Every time I called, for three or four times, they kept telling me the part would arrive the next Friday.
I had been calling the company directly for about a month and I finally got frustrated with them, so I called American Home Shield to get the issue escalated. I was very tempted to cancel my whole policy because if that was the type of company that AHS would be sending me, then I would just fend for myself. That company was terrible. It took two months for me to get my air conditioner fixed. Overall, my interactions with the AHS reps have been good. They were helpful when I needed to call and get help. Also, once the work was done, it was done well. I would just warn people to be mindful of the company being sent because they could turn on you quickly.

Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield was simple. P&R repairs didn't return a couple of phone calls until they got the part. AHS called us to follow up to see if P&R Repairs got the part because it had been a few days and I haven’t heard anything. They just didn’t return saying, “Oh we’re waiting on it”, because I had called and thought the guy had fixed it. They just called to let me know if it’s not fixed, they’ll order the part. And then they called when they got the part in. Then I got the part, the guy fixed it and it was fine. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The contractor came out and he had trouble fixing the unit so he called a supervisor who came out within an hour. They then worked on fixing it and they got it running but it stopped again within two hours after they left. So, I called right back and the person I talked to told me that it might take a week. I told her that that won't do. They had to order a part and it came in after three days. The contractor came out and fixed it. It all worked and everything went well. I opened two claims with American Home Shield--one was related to my clogged sink and the other one was about my oven as it wasn’t working and also my refrigerator which has a water dispenser that was not working fine. I submitted them over the internet and it has been easy, but their site has no specific tab for the sink. American Home Shield should have at least a phone number so that in case people don’t find the item that they are looking for, they can call and talk to someone else.
The contractors worked fine for both of the claims, although for the refrigerator, the tech said that there was nothing to do. The water was flowing very slow, but this was related to the plumbing and not to the appliance itself, so we didn't solve that. I called some people before and they told me there was an issue on the water dispenser which was different from the feedback that I got from the one that I called from American Home Shield. Still, American Home Shield is perfect.

When we had a plumbing issue, we submitted a claim to American Home Shield by calling it in. We had a low pressure in our house that if we use the kitchen sink and the shower, we would have low, low pressure. The contractor who came out to diagnose it was great. The guy was direct and cut-and-dry. He was very quick as well. He got the parts that he needed and fixed it. And then he handled everything with American Home Shield once he came out. That was very convenient and nice. In fact, he took good care of us and seem to be fine about taking on that responsibility for the rest of it. It was part of our warranty after all. Overall, everything else is good with American Home Shield. The people are knowledgeable but you literally have to wait a tremendous amount of time to get a rep. The only thing is from the few times that we've used American Home Shield, sometimes it takes awhile for somebody to call us. And then after we called then we gotta wait until the next person calls so sometimes it's not as expedited as I would like it to be. And sometimes, they're not very fast with time. Buying a new or used home? Considering a home warranty? Thinking about American Home Shield? DON'T DO IT!!! The WORST customer experience. Online is fine; but if calling, you must navigate a series of commercials & offers to figure out the right sequence to get to an agent. Took me 3 times, then on-hold for 45 minutes to get an agent to discuss. AHS EXPLOITS new homeowners through its claims of offering insurance for maintenance and repairs. This is NOT TRUE. We've kept the service for years, for the peace of mind after we bought a repo in a new area where we didn't have a connection with local contractors.
After years of not needing anything (that's what insurance is for, right?), we filed 2 claims in the last month and both have been rejected because the technicians couldn't find parts (they are no longer available from the manufacturer) so the contractors FALSELY report the claim to AHS as broken/damaged due to "excessive force" or "misuse" by the homeowner. No point arguing, as AHS staff are trained to enforce a "NO-PAY" policy. They do offer to get a 2nd opinion, but if that turns out to be same finding, they charge you another visit fee.
In many cases, it's cheaper & easier to just get it fixed elsewhere. You'll do better by building a relationship with local services companies "jack of all trades" and use them on an ad-hoc basis or setting aside reserves of your own for "just in case" you need repairs, rather than paying a monthly fee to these guys with no guarantee that you'll actually get the support from the service. Particularly on an older home or with older appliances that might be difficult to repair. Warn your friends & neighbors.

I have been on the phone way too long, heard conflicting reports, been given conflicting instructions, and excessively long wait times. It should not take 10-14 days to finish paperwork for an electric water heater replacement. They intentionally delay and complicate the process in an effort to get out of the contracted obligation. Their website and contract clearly state they will repair or replace water heaters. Yet to date, they have refused to do either. My first experience was no different. So I myself purchased a warranty with your company and now that I need it, guess what? It is not there for me, so I have paid almost 1,000 in payments, and when I had to call a technician it was 125.00 dollars for the visit, then Ambient Air, told me I had a leak and I needed 4lbs of freon, but American Home Shield only pays 10.00 a pound and the cost of freon is 90.00 dollars a pound. And Ambient Air also said I needed a new filter, guess what American Home Shield also does not cover that, another 125.00 dollars. Then two hours go by I call Ambient Air, the air conditioner is not working. I am told to give it some time because the house has been hot. I wait a day. Still not working. Call again, I am told have to wait for American Home Shield to approve second visit.
Finally technician comes out, Now I need a coil for system, have to wait for approval from American Home Shield, CALL 5 TIMES, each time the system is down, they can not help me!! Meanwhile My dogs and my boyfriend and I are burning up. American Home Shield now calls me next day to tell me that I have to pay another 325.00 so they can put in the coil for the air conditioner, they do not want to purchase the one I need they need to get a different one. Will it even work after they do that? Do not know, Soooo I called and asked to speak to a manager, guess what the representative that answered the phone on the 3 occasions would not let me. We're now on our third year with American Home Shield. Some of our friends recommended it because they had a home the age as ours. So far, we had flood damage three times and we don't live in a flood zone. We also had a lot of repairs done to our house but it was all woodwork and walls. And our friends mentioned that over the course of three years, they had part of their air conditioner replaced, refrigerator, a washer, and an oven. And the insurance cost them about a $1,000 a year. They would call for repairs and the appliance would either get repaired or not. But if they couldn't repair the appliance, they'd completely replace it. And they could either upgrade or whatever. And so I thought, it beats having to try to find a repairman. And that was the reason we did it.
So far, I've spoken to the same girl the two times I have called and she was very helpful. She even called me back to make sure that she has the street number right. Also, my interaction with Greenway went well. They came out when they said they were coming out and they fixed the problem. When the guys that came out realized that they didn't have one of the right parts, they went ahead and put in the thermostat that they had and then came back the next day and put in the correct thermostat so we could have air conditioning.
Furthermore, I have a Bosch oven and I called them out about that one time because I don't think it is cooking right. The guy that came out checked it. He said that it's an air heat oven and that it's heating up like it should, and the only way I'm gonna be able to cook in it is turn the pan halfway through a recipe. He and I didn't agree on that, and up until about four months ago now, I had no problems with the oven. The oven is working, it's just not working the way I want it to work. But until something goes out that they can fix, I'm stuck with it. Nonetheless, I have recommended AHS to two other friends.

We submitted claims with American Home Shield for three things in the last month including a garage door, a plumbing thing, and an AC thing. I file claims over the phone because they automatically assign you a contractor when you do it online and there was one that we will not use because of the way they do business and typically, it’s the one that gets automatically assigned whenever we file a claim online. The contractors generally are okay if you get a good one. When the garage door guy came, he was on time within the two-hour limit and he did a good job. And the plumbers did what needed to be done as well.
However, some contractors for two separate appointments set up a five-hour window and never showed up. I had to take off from work two separate days to stay home between 8:00 and 1:00. They thought they were gonna show up and they said they really couldn’t say. And then, one time they said they will arrive in the next three minutes but they never showed up. I waited 30 minutes beyond the window and then I finally had to go to work.
So finally after the second time, I told American Home Shield that I was just going to get a contractor on my own and that I'd not go through them because they didn’t have anybody else and I just didn’t trust them anymore. So I didn’t get any benefit out of American Home Shield because they had no control over their vendors. They don’t even have enough of them in the Memphis area. They have three companies for AC but the one I chose, which has been very reliable in the past, was completely unreliable and very uncommunicative. And American Home Shield does not take any feedback. These certain people came in the past and they’ve broken things, and American Home Shield would not make it right.
My contract with AHS has been going on for 12 years and I’m about to cancel it and try a different one because essentially, they stink. I’m frustrated. I had a contract and I had to pay a lot of extra money to get my repairs done because I could not get them to stand behind their vendors and get something done. And they didn’t reimburse me for anything. They don’t care.
Also, years ago, we had an emergency thing with an elderly person and they told us that it was gonna be three days before they could get our air conditioning done. So I had called somebody on my own. Then I called American Home Shield and they told me that they'd reimburse me for the amount of the repairs but with the $75 less. The guy I spoke with gave me an email address and I sent over the information but I never got anything from them. I tried to contact them a number of occasions but the person who supposedly made the deal with me did not exist and it has been a nightmare. But we’ve kept American Home Shield because we’re nervous in case something big breaks. But they really had not done a good job. They pay no attention to what their customers are saying, and I will not recommend them.

And then the contractor said it would be a week before they could show up and put another water heater in. So I had to go out and find somebody to put a water heater in because there’s no way I could expect my wife to hang out for a week without any hot water.
AHS didn't help me. He texted me and said his name, badge number and the reason he was contacting me. So it wasn’t like a solicitation. He was very specific that I had made the contact and that was why he was contacting me.
It was about two weeks to get a result from the time I filed the claim. It was because he had to order parts and he only comes over this side of town every other day and I was out of town. So between the two of our schedules and ordering the parts, it didn't work out well. And when I filed the claim online, the website doesn't have all the options but it was okay. However, it was an inconvenience for me because I told them that I had some stuff to do and I wouldn’t be here. But later that evening, I was home and they came knocking at my doors. They were in the area and just checked anyway. So I got it fixed the same day, which impressed me. He also told me what was wrong with the AC and showed me the part he changed out. Now the AC is working fine. I also had a water leak out of my sink three years ago and the reps handled it very well. Also, submitting a claim online wasn’t difficult. American Home Shield is something that a homeowner should not be without. It’s just like automobile insurance. You pay for it and sometimes you wonder why you fork up the money but when something goes bad, you’re glad you have it and I recommend them all the time.

I called in a claim on my AC because it wasn't cooling properly. The company that American Home Shield sent out did good work. The service tech was knowledgeable and he took the time with the AC to diagnose the problem. He explained to me that the issue was because of the type of unit that I have, which is a zone unit, and that I was low on Freon. He fixed the Freon problem and he checked the motor and some other stuff on the unit. Now, everything is working correctly. I recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield was one of the best investments I made since I bought my house. My little overflow pan went out and got clogged up and they replaced it. I submitted my claim over the phone and it was very easy. My interactions with their representatives were good. And the contractor who came out was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what the issue was and handled the problem. All in all, every time I had to call American Home Shield and use them, I hadn't had any problems.

American Home Shield is quick to respond every time I have any type of issue with my home. The only thing is, whenever I request service, it always takes 24 hours. My wife and I have a six-month old. When we requested service, they got back to us, but they couldn't come out and fix it today. I was hoping it was yesterday. But that's my only concern. The contractors that AHS has sent out are very professional. When they're here, they solve the issue in a timely manner. From what I have experienced so far with my AC, they were here for no longer than 15 minutes.

We recently bought a house and moved into it in March. We have two AC units and one of the AC units quit. The inside unit was running but the fan of the outside unit just stopped running which means nothing was cooling inside. I submitted a claim online to AHS. I got a text message that said that they had referred my claim to a company. And the contractors came out the very next day and worked their magic and got it running. They were very personable and did their job.

The dryer wasn't heating up and I called it in at American Home Shield. Their reps are always friendly and they were able to send a tech in a day or two. The technician that came out was really knowledgeable and thorough. I’ve gone two or three service calls with American Home Shield and this technician has been really good. He explained to me what was gonna get done and he took his time to resolve the issue. Then it was a same-day resolve, which was great. He didn’t have to go out, get parts and come back a different day.
Good afternoon Sergio,

The pump for the pool wasn't pumping. I submitted a claim online because American Home Shield never answered the phone. Even so, navigating through the website was quick and easy. And the next day, the tech came. Since the pool pump was an easy access, I didn't have to be there. The tech called me up and I told him what the problem was. The backwash bypass wasn't working, and he replaced the O-ring. After the repair, the pump has been working fine and backwashing is really easy now. Having the warranty always paid for itself, and I'll tell others that they need American Home Shield.

I've had my house for less than 30 days and the AC was already not working. I called American Home Shield and when the repair technician came, he said that whoever last serviced the AC cracked the lid and that’s why it was leaking Freon. So he replaced the lid and then I had to pay for five pounds of Freon because it was not covered entirely. The technician did the job quickly and did it well. The AC started working and so I'm happy with his work. American Home Shield did a good job as well. They were responsive and it was easy to do everything. American Home Shield is a good thing to invest in for a first-time home buyer and trying to save money.

The toilet was not running very quickly a few weeks ago and we submitted the claim for that plumbing issue with American Home Shield through the internet. The online submission process was great and much easier than talking on my old phone. The contractor, Patriot Plumbing, responded right away to set up an appointment. They came out and got there when they were supposed to. They were in and out very efficiently and got everything taken care of, and the toilet's functioning has been great since the repair.

Our heating unit wasn't working. It's the original unit with the house, so it was probably about 20 years old. And it just got so that it wouldn’t work. We have filed several claims during the last couple of years and we've had a number of different contractors come out and refill the refrigerant, work on it and replace things. This time, Air Supply Cooling came out and they did just fine. They seemed to be professional, friendly, answered questions that we would ask. Sometimes they even had to put it in layman terms so that we could understand what they were explaining. However, they weren't able to fix the unit. But they did replace the outside unit but what happens to it is that it will come on, and it will work but then we'll notice that it doesn’t seem like it’s kicking on. I’m not feeling any cool air. And so, we’ll go and we’ll look, and it will say that it’s set for 76, but it will be 80 degrees.
And it happens intermittently. You can’t really pinpoint when it’s gonna happen. Air Supply Cooling had asked us to check when that happens, if it was icing up anywhere by the unit. We never saw anything like that, because we’ve been checking in the last couple of weeks. The day before yesterday, it worked all day. No problem. Yesterday, when that happened, we shut it off at the thermostat. We then wait a little while, and then turned it back on, and then it worked again. So, they have determined that maybe it was in a relay switch or something up in the attic. And it was suggested that we replace the relay up there, which we have not yet done because we’ve been trying to monitor. So, it’s like the problem is resolved but not completely. It still needs something else. We've got a new thermostat a while back and we got a new outside unit in the beginning of May, but we’re still having some issues. We have to call it back in.
Since our policy says that AHS will replace things and stuff and because Air Supply Cooling said that we needed the outside unit we thought it was okay with the home warranty. However AHS argued with us that we went outside of our warranty and did this on our own. I sent in the paperwork where Air Supply Cooling had it in writing that they recommended we replace this unit. For a couple of weeks, AHS said that they never got the paperwork from Air Supply. And in the meantime, we were sitting here hanging in limbo.
Still, that has been resolved and over the weekend we got a partial reimbursement. I pay a premium to have the warranty and I’m just at a point where I just don’t know, but we’re wasting our money using a warranty. Maybe we’d just be better off saving our money and putting that money toward repairs and replacements if necessary. We’re getting into our hot season and we’re between Death Valley and Las Vegas, so it can get extremely hot so having an AC is a necessity for us and we appreciate having it.

At the time that I put in the request for the service, I misunderstood when the representative spoke about providing my card information or calling back and paying it within 48 hours of the service. American Home Shield is absolutely amazing. I have a multilevel house and I noticed that there was a waterfall under the shower. I had noticed some moisture a couple of years before but I didn’t know where it was coming from. I made the plumbing claim and it ended up being a relatively minor issue. From when I filed the claim online to when the plumber walked into my garage, it was about 21 hours. It was astoundingly fast and super professional. I had a great local contractor, Contreras Plumbing, to take care of it and they immediately followed up afterwards. It was quickly resolved and there were no further issues. I’m a realtor and so I recommend a lot of home warranty companies but American Home Shield has become my go-to. I had gone with them because I had seen a couple of claims had great results. I also had an issue with my fridge but the guy that AHS assigned to me never came back or told me anything. So, I was very much angry. We were on a trip and when we got home and walked in our bathroom, there was water on the floor. One of our faucets had failed. And so, I called American Home Shield, and they charged me $100 to have a fellow come out, take a look at it, and tell me that I needed to replace the faucet since it failed. I said, "Oh, gee, that’s gold. A $100 for that.” But he said he couldn't do anything about it. The sink had to be taken off, and they don't do that. So he said I have to remove the sink and move everything. And then, they'd come and replace the faucets and and then I'll have to put the sink back up.
So I worked and worked and I called them once I got the sink off and the guy said, "Okay, so let me see what we can do." And I asked if they had the faucet or not and he said he didn't know and he'd check. And so I said, "What's the deal?" He said they could send somebody out to see what the situation was. But I told him that the situation has already been fixed and that they were gonna buy the faucets. Still, he said he didn't know if they had the faucets. And I just told him to call me when they get the faucet. The next day, he called back and told me they didn't know if they had the faucet but they'd come out and fix it. I told him I needed to have it fixed that day because I was going on another trip. And he said they couldn't come out until three days later.
And finally I just told myself, "Forget it." I called a contractor who did all the work. He charged me $500 to get it all fixed. And then the people from the other contractor for American Home Shield called me back and said they'd be out here the next day to fix it. I wouldn't get that contractor again and I told them not to come and American Home Shield called me and told me the contractor would be up here to fix it. I told them it's already been done and that I paid to have a contractor come out. So finally, they came over and told me to get all my receipts together and get a receipt from the contractor, copy of his license and AHS will pay us the $250. And so I'm in the process of trying to get that resolved right now.
It was a monstrous headache. Also, AHS responds, although it is very difficult to get in touch with them. I got the telephone number and I could not talk with an individual. All I got was their recorded stuff but there was no option to talk to an associate. But they took good care of the claim I had with the microwave. The contractor came out, fixed it, and said they were gonna have to do something. And he called me back four days later and said he got the parts and asked me when he could come out. He came out and fixed it and it cost me $100. So that one went very well.

I was told by the contractor that came out that I would be paying $10 for a pipe, but I ended up paying $59. But everything has been working since the repair.
Then, even though I had put through the $75 charge in two days, American Home Shield kept sending me notifications and telling me that my payment didn’t go through, and they were charging me $75. My card number has changed, but my payment should have already gone through before I changed my card, so I was a little confused about why it took them so long to come through with the charge. The water heater and our tank broke and spilled water under the flooring of two rooms and out into the garage. And after we got that fixed, we found a leak in the wall in a pipe. Submitting a claim with AHS was fairly easy. I went online and asked for a plumber and they sent one out. Then we ended up having to pay the $125 service charge and an additional $500 for the new fittings on the water heater, which they didn’t cover and I wasn’t prepared to pay for it. So that was a big disappointment. They also don’t pay for the damages, so those are additional expenses that we’ve got to pay. I have a contract with AHS. I requested service April 30, 2018 and as of today the issue is not resolved. AHS assigned a service contractor (Yazd Mechanical) and I received their visit May 5. The contractor barely spent 10 minutes in my house to tell me that the issue was the thermostat. I called the thermostat company and they sent a new device. I was still having the same issue so I spent 2 hours over the phone with the thermostat company trying to troubleshoot the issue. We were able to demonstrate that the issue was not the thermostat but either the furnace control board or a wire leakage.
I called back AHS May 16 for a recall service due to the same issues and they assigned the same contractor (Yazd Mechanical). The same guy showed up in my house May 18 and without doing any troubleshooting he said that the problem was the thermostat. I disagree with the technician and he said that he did not have time to do more verification that he had another call. I disputed their diagnosis and I called the same day to AHS to complain about it. AHS did nothing and I had to call back again to AHS to see the status of the order. AHS said that they did not have the diagnosis from the contractor and therefore they could not do anything. On May 24 AHS assigned another contractor (United Air Temp Heating). The technician visited my house and told me that there was a leakage in the cable that they will report to AHS so they can approve the repair.
May 30 I receive an email from AHS assigning Top Tech Cooling & Heating Services. I thought it was the contractor performing the repairs and when the technician arrived he said he was just doing diagnosis. I told him that I thought he was repairing the issue and he said that he cannot repair off someone else diagnosis. The week of June 4 I called again AHS to ask them why they did not have someone to repair rather than diagnose it and AHS answer was that the previous contractor (United Air Temp Heating) said that they do not work two stages furnaces. I mentioned AHS that it was not true, that the technician told me that there was a leakage in the wire that AHS has to authorize to repair. Still the issue not resolved and AHS is telling me that they have not received the diagnosis from the last contractor (Top Tech Cooling & Heating Services) and therefore they cannot do anything until they receive it.
What I am supposed to do? Wait indefinitely until their contractor provides the diagnosis? AHS just uses the diagnosis excuse but in the meanwhile, my system is malfunctioning. I asked AHS to get a call from a supervisor and I requested the supervisor to cancel my contract because after 4 visits and one month and a half, the system was still not fixed. She said that she would have the commercial department calling me. The supervisor just call me again June 13 to tell me that they did not have yet the diagnosis from the contractor. I said that I was not expecting her call but the commercial department call to cancel the contract. Once again the supervisor evidenced that she did not have a clue what was going on with my case. She just gave me the phone number for the department and asked me to call them directly. While I was cancelling my contract I asked her to provide me an update on the diagnosis status.
There are more details and issues but the description would be endless and I think this description is enough to demonstrate that AHS is not worthy. I believe that here there are two issues, definitely one is that AHS does not properly and timely manage the service request, contractors and client. And secondly, the contractors are abusing of AHS. The repairs that my system requires are not of their interest, they just need to replace a wire and likely they prefer to focus on big repairs (like entire unit replacement) and they just send inaccurate diagnosis so they avoid the repair. The contractor tells something to the client and something completely different to AHS but the client is not protected because AHS just go off contractor's diagnosis.
Finally, if you ask for a supervisor, they do not resolve differently than an operator. If you want to send a letter to the customer relations, there is no easy way. They do not provide you the email and they just tell you to look for it in the web. If you request the history of your case and the transcripts, they tell you to do a subpoena with your legal services. I am not going to deny that in my last call with them I was mad with them but this issue has gone beyond my patience limits.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Been with American Home Shield for close to 1.5 years now. Just had a service tech completely miss a 4 hour window and had to reschedule for next week. So I pay $25 per month, had to pay $132 for the service fee, flushed 4 hours of Paid Time Off down the drain and have to take more time off to do the same thing next Tuesday. I call American Home Shield looking for a little compensation back and get nothing. Was told they would talk to a supervisor but the supervisor wasn't available. They said the supervisor will call me back and that hasn't happened yet. I will be canceling as soon as my repair is completed. By the time this is over, it would have been financial benefit for me to purchase a new dryer myself.
This company simply does not 'care' about customer satisfaction and does not put the customer 1st. After reviewing my account, I also noticed that my monthly fee increased and I don't remember seeing any communication about it. I specifically bought this 'Home Warranty' for convenience. I knew that it probably isn't a smart financial decision, but still thought I'd give it a try. Turned out to be a nightmare.
Do yourself a favor and put more money in your pocket by not going with a Home Warranty Company (especially American Home Shield). If there is an issue with your appliance you can quickly watch a 'how to' video on YouTube and order the part online (saving you much more money). Plus if there is a major appliance issue to say a furnace / hot water heater or a leak in your house... I am sure (based on the other reviews) that the Home Warranty doesn't cover everything and would mean more time / more money / and more headache.

1) $780. Return premium still owed nearly 90 days after warranty cancelled. 2) Unpaid claim 90 days. 3) Deducting premium from my checking account on a home I no longer own. I cancelled the warranty with AHS and replaced with substitute warranty company at the recommendation of the real estate broker and title company due to the many problems they and other clients had with AHS.
The representative for American Home Shield appointed a special representative, Jade **, to assist me with all of these issues after months of attempting to handle on my own. The representative promised, in writing, to update me every day or every other day as to the status. I have heard from her possibly three times in the past month, and each time was because I initiated contact with her. Anything that she promised to do never took place. She has done nothing to assist me. I ended up with a false sense of security and matters just got worse as a result. I am still waiting for the $780 that was due back to me in March.
I have not received anything in writing, or verbally, as to why they did not pay the claim for the dish disposal replacement in the home I purchased. I believe by law this is required within 30 days of the claim being filed. I just hired a separate plumber and replaced the disposal and took care of other plumbing concerns myself. The home inspection report clearly stated that the disposal needed to be replaced. (This was filed under the warranty purchased by the prior homeowner.) The company refuses to put anything in writing explaining why they refused to pay for same.
The company promised to stop deducting premium payments from my checking account on the warranty that was cancelled on a home I no longer own, however three months later they continue to do so. I finally contacted my bank and placed stop payments on all further withdrawals. I should never have trusted that AHS would stop deducting those funds. My real estate broker has been aware of this since closing back in March. Even though American Home Shield acknowledges they are deducting those payments in error, they continue to deduct funds directly from my bank account. I have notified Jade **. that I am reporting this to the state of Arizona Department of Insurance and filing a complaint for fraud and bad faith, and even that is not spark her to return my calls or respond.
I have asked her to have her manager contact me and I have received no response. The company acknowledges they owe me $780 in premium for the warranty I canceled flat on the home that I purchased in March but I am still waiting for that return premium and they refused to put anything in writing as to the status. At this point the company owes me at least $1500 and I can get no answers from them.
The new warranty company, Old Republic, responded immediately when I had a problem with the pool, and with the circuit board for the spa, And a week later they responded immediately when there was a concern with the plumbing in the new home. Those claims were paid without question. I am not one to file claims with warranty companies so this is out of the ordinary for me. It’s just nice to know that when you absolutely do need to use your warranty, there are companies like Old Republic that actually honor their commitment to their customers. I have absolutely no affiliation with either company. Just a word of warning, I would be very cautious in ever dealing with American Home Shield. I had them in the past with no problem ever. I may have utilized them twice in 12 years, but this has been an abysmal experience.

Eight weeks ago our washing machine quit working. AHS called a contractor to come out. They made it two weeks later. They decide on what was needed and ordered the parts. About a week later they came out with the parts. Could not get the screws loose on the tub and actually stripped them. Had to order more parts then. AHS contacted another contractor. When I asked him why he was calling me he told me that AHS didn't believe the first contractor. So we scheduled a day for him to come out. A week later he arrived and came up with the same parts as the first contractor. So he ordered them and we waited another week for those parts to come in.
During the wait the first contractor called again and said they had all the parts to fixed the machine. I told them to call AHS and find out who was supposed to fix our machine. Never heard back from them. When the second contractor received the parts he called again and we set up another date for him to come back (last Friday). He decided the machine was not repairable and claims has communicated this to AHS. I have called AHS and gone through their horrible wait times three times now only to be told each time that the contractor has ordered parts to repair our machine. Again the contractor has told me twice that he has communicated to AHS that the machine is not repairable. It appears that we are getting ripped off by this company. They will NOT get any more of my money and anyone I can find that will listen will hear about this. Eight weeks without a washing machine is enough. I'm going out tonight to buy a new one.

I am a first time home buyer and I am not sure if the realtors get some credit for selling American Home Shield “Whole home warranty” but my experience is they are a sham. So I paid nearly 600 dollars to have “coverage” for 1 year on most of the major systems in my home. When it started heating up, I tried to use the AC unit in my house. It was not getting cold at all. So I contacted American Home Shield to investigate. I noticed that they covered leaky pipes also and from my understanding 75 bucks was like a deductible. So a plumber and an HVAC tech was dispatched to my home. HVAC shows up, after I paid the 75 bucks to AHS had to recharge my system, and paid 220 bucks (300) to add coolant to my system. Ok sure it’s r-22 and it’s more expensive than newer coolant. So this made this entire service call, MORE expensive than if I was to hire a private contractor to come and do it. So I am into this already 900 dollars for one single call.
Then here is the kicker, I had a plumber come out to look at a leak or to find a cause of a leak. He couldn’t find a leak, he flushed my toilet a few times, ran the water down the drain said he couldn’t find anything then he left, I signed nothing. He literally did nothing. Was there less than 15 minutes. No not only was my HVAC about 100 dollars more than my other quotes, the sham business AHS charged me 75 bucks for the plumber to do nothing, he didn’t even have a tool in his hand. When I told AHS about this, customer service was kind of rude, and told me that since he was there it was 75 bucks, even though he did nothing. When I asked for a refund they told me no. So they sent someone out to turn my water on, flush my toilet, diagnose nothing and that costs 75 bucks?
Most of the plumbing places I received quotes from had free estimates. They came and looked at the problems, diagnose and give a price, not flush my toilet for 75 bucks. So I am into this 1000 dollars now, they were at the house for a total of 30 minutes, they apparently do not cover coolant costs, they charge 75 for a service call. I am a handyman, I am strapped on time and I am appalled at the way I was treated. I was on the phone for 3 hours today, multiple people and some told me they would get the refund, l for the 75 bucks, some told me that I am SOL. So please please listen, DO NOT BUY AHS HOME WARRANTY. Service calls are much cheaper. It’s not a good deal. If you call a local business, I bet you they will beat the final costs. Please don’t send another dime to them. It’s a sham.
Good afternoon Richard,

As soon as we moved into our new house (built in 2010), we found that there was a leak on our side of the water meter at the street. We found that AHS does not cover anything physically located outside of the house... so $400 out of pocket on day 1. Now our upstairs A.C. is not working. It took 5 days for them to get a contractor out (in very hot Texas weather) just to look at it. They found that the Freon was low so they put in 5 lbs. (AHS only covers $10 a pound) and we had to cover the rest ($125). They would not even check to see if there was a leak at that time, but said it would be covered if it stopped working again. Go figure, there is a leak and it is not working again. They were able to get someone out in 2 days this time (woohoo), and found that the evaporator coil inside needs to be replaced. AHS covers the replacement of the evap coil but they will not cover the "construction items" to keep it in code... so another $325 out of pocket.
$850 later... If I would have just forgone this warranty and had my normal AC tech down the road complete all of these repairs, I would have been better off. I have never written a bad review on a company until now, and went as far as setting up an account here just to do so. This is how frustrated I am. You get a home warranty to protect you from these basic items and this company finds every tiny way possible to put the cost back on the homeowner. I will never use this company again and I will tell everyone I know to do the same.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have been a loyal customer with AHS since 2002. Every year I renew my contract because it gave me peace of mind. Well, last year we had a few problems so we had several claims. One was because we were painting our laundry room and our washer connection was stuck on from years of being connected. They sent a plumbing company that MELTED my faucet's box when soldering the pipe they cut to attach new faucet!
When my renewal came up this year, I called in to pay it and was informed that this year my contract will cost over $1100 when it was just over $600 last year. What?! Why?! They said it was because of the number of claims I had last year. Isn’t this the reason we buy warranty? So now I get punished for using it? Did I mention I have been with AHS since 2002? Obviously they do not appreciate their loyal customers. I’m in search of alternative plans currently. So be warned to new clients. They will charge you extra next year if you actually have to make claims!
Good afternoon Linh,
I understand your concerns with the higher price that you were quoted to renew the contract. I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the matter and resolve the issue.

Pilot light kept going out on my hot water heater. AHS sends out a tech to fix the problem. Contractor came out twice to fix the problem and then a third time to fix the gas leak they caused at my house. Today the pilot light is going out again. I called AHS and they won't fix the exact same issue I already paid to have fixed because they only warranty their work for 60 days and we are 28 days past their ridiculous warranty period. 2 months ago I requested a contractor to come out to fix my pop ups in my pool. I spent $125 to have a contractor come out to tell me that my warranty company does not cover pool pop ups. AHS could have told that to avoid the $125 service charge, but based on the reviews on this site, I can understand why they did not tell me. They are clearly a horrible company.
Hi, Jason. I apologize that you were unable to place a recall for the hot water heater issue and that your pool pop-ups were not covered. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to discuss your coverages.

AC broke on May 27th. Placed a service request May 28th. After 24 hours and no contact from AHS I called them and they said they the tech would call me. 24 hours later I called the tech myself and scheduled an appointment for May 31st. Took a half day of vacation to be home when the tech arrived. After arriving home, 1.5 hours before the tech was due I received a call to inform me the tech had food poisoning and could not make it. They said he would arrive on June 1st at 7 am. Tech arrived at 7:45 and apologized because he out till 1:00 am. Food poisoning and out till 1:00 am?
Tech looked at AC and said it needed a new compressor but he needed approval from AHS. On May 5th I had not heard anything from AHS so I called again (See a theme developing? They do not provide a proactive service.) and was told they did not get the paperwork from the tech till the 4th and it had to go through approval. They could not actually provide a service and call the tech sooner to see where the paperwork is. Are they just going to "Hope" he gets it to them and that I am ok with that situation.
Couple hours later I received a call to say the repair was approved and that I needed to contact the service company to schedule an appointment. Again, I have to drive the bus. I called the service company and they said AHS sends them the part, they are not allowed to go to the local supply house and buy it and that it takes 3-5 business days for AHS to get them the part. Here I am, now it's June 12th, no update from the service company, no update from AHS.
Again I am going to have to call them and ask what is going on. What am I paying them for? This is my 11th month of "service" at $55 a month, $605 dollars total, $108 for the service call and since they only pay $10 a pound for coolant I have to shell out another $320 to replace the coolant. Total is $1,333 for someone to take over 16 days to repair an AC unit. If I had not purchased the warranty I could have saved all that money, paid the repair guy out of pocket and had my AC repaired 15 days ago. Not to mention the $50 per day I am paying for a rental portable AC unit because the heat index has hit 105 degrees since the ac broke. If AHS's mission statement is to make the customer feel screwed over, do all the legwork themselves and pay the same or more money to get something they could have done themselves then job well done AHS. Mission accomplished.
Funny thing is, since this is month 11 of my one year contract I just received a letter in the mail to try to get me to renew for another year. Really? This is about the most miserable "service" I have ever received and they think I am going to do it twice? Right now I am more concerned about how I can get all my money back I wasted on AHS.
Updated on 07/30/2018: I honestly dont know what to do at this point. AHS has been to my house 5 times, I have taken 2.5 days off work to meet technicians. Finally they were suppose to replace my ac tomorrow and I receive a call from the service company at 4:35 pm today to tell me AHS did not ship the equipment and they have to cancel my appointment to finally fix my AC after 65 days of summer with a broken AC. I have called AHS uncountable times and asked to speak to a supervisor. None have ever been available. I have asked numerous times to have a supervisor call me back. I have never received an call back from anyone at AHS. Please, I am begging, someone tell me what I am doing wrong. How do I get AHS to actually do a repair for the warranty I paid for?
Hello Danny. We apologize that your service request has taken this amount of time to reach a resolution. I do show that equipment was ordered and should have been received by now. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist you with resolution.

But then, we waited and kept running water and I said the water seemed to be getting beyond tepid. And so, something was wrong. He tested and worked on it. He said the thermostat needed to be replaced. So he replaced the thermostat. Then we went to the next process and it worked. When I called in to make a claim, I asked if they could do this and that, and the representative suggested there would be a $75 service fee. I asked if they would replace it if it can't be fixed. She said they would. But the problem got fixed. The service was fine.
American Home Shield was a part of the sale of the house that I bought in. My real-estate agent said, “You want to have this because you may have something that goes out, you don’t wanna be faced with the $5,000 bill for an appliance like the air-conditioner or something." She said, “I don’t care that it’s new. There are things like that that happens.” So that’s the reason why I have it. And I talked with the woman at Layton and said I was having difficulty with the awnings. She said they only cover things on the inside.

My toilet was leaking from the base wherein turning off the water valve was not enough to keep it from continuing to be a problem. I filed a claim and American Home Shield assigned somebody. It was on a Saturday night so I wasn’t expecting to hear from anybody up until Monday. I proactively just sucked the water out of the toilet and pulled the toilet off just to make sure that the water leak would stop. Then, I noticed that there was a bunch of moisture underneath the flooring on the wood, so I just ripped that back and I treated it to prevent the mold build-up and just left it. You could clearly see the root cause of the problem and it was a bad seal. It took about four days to schedule an appointment with the service provider. When they were finally able to come out, they said, “Oh, you removed the toilet so we can’t do anything,” and then left.
American Home Shield won't cover secondary damage. They were pretty much telling me my option was to just let my floor rot away and mold while I waited for the technician, and that was the only way they would have covered the toilet. But, I couldn’t just let my home be damaged. I ended up getting another plumber out. The fix was so simple that he didn't even charge me. He reinforced the ring, cut through the wood, made sure it was safe to put the toilet back on, and just put the toilet back on.
So with all of this, I escalated it to a supervisor with American Home Shield. I asked them to at least give me my $75 back and we'll just call it even. But, they refused to give it back and said that they dispatched a technician. And that was the same service provider I’ve had problems with from my last house. I told the supervisor to give me back my $75 back or I'd want a refund on my entire contract as I don’t see I even have a need for this warranty. She said, "Fine," then referred me to cancellation which is another phone number that I have to call.
Obviously, the contractors are incentivized to go to as many service calls as possible and not do any work because they'd still get the service call fee through American Home Shield. And American Home Shield does not really care about this issue. When the techs came to my house, I even offered them that I'd pay cash just to fix the issue. But they refused and said that they were booked two weeks out even though we were already there at the time and they could make money to fix the issue.
I’m gonna write the whole thing off as fraudulent with my bank and just forget about it. I just couldn't believe that they have this type of policy and I've been a six-year customer with them. They could have easily fixed this by just saying, “You know what, the service provider will just go ahead and take care of it,” and then we would be fine right now.
I’m a huge detractor. I do customer loyalty analytics for a living and this is so bad for American Home Shield. I’m probably gonna cancel everything and tell everybody I know, including the people in real estate who recommend these warranties for the home buyers, about my terrible experience with American Home Shield. They would probably gonna lose tens of thousands of dollars because they refused to tell those plumbers to go ahead and take care of the issue because this is not a normal circumstance. The issue I had was a gray area and the company should have processes and procedures to mitigate those gray areas and uphold the agreement and the customer’s experience, but that’s obviously not how the company is set up.

It took about three weeks before the pool heater was repaired because of the part issue. But as far as the actual work that was done, all that was pretty fast and simple. And now, the pool heater works. After that, the dishwasher also quit working. I filed another claim with AHS and they sent a tech out. He verified the complaint and replaced the main fuse inside there. And unlike the one with the pool heater, he had the part with him at the time.
I submitted both claims online and that was a whole lot easier than calling in. The communication was through emails as well as text messaging and they let me know when the techs were gonna arrive. They also verified that they received my requests via email and text message. And via online, everything was done within the day and I didn’t have to wait. Sometimes when I'd call in the phone, nobody would be there after 5 or whatever the case may be.
Other than that, the contractors who came out for my claims were both professional and they knew what they were doing. Everything was great. I would tell my friends to get this warranty because you never know when something is gonna break down. AHS takes care of things and all you do is call in on the appliance that broke down. I contacted the contractor and was told that I would have to call the technician to scheduled with him directly. I called him and left a message. About 4 hours later I called again and left another message.
About an hour later I sent a text to the technician introducing myself and requested a return call. When he finally called back, he said he was booked up but was going to be in my area Monday evening and he would call me with a time. Monday morning came and went. At lunchtime, I sent a text and asked for a roundabout time. I received a text back and was told he was extremely busy but would call me with a time later in the day. Monday came and went and no call from the technician or Four Seasons.
On Thursday morning I contacted AHS and they contacted Four Seasons. After being on hold for quite some time, the representative came back to the phone and stated they had a death in their family and could not fix my a/c. Then the representative put me on hold again, but could not find me another company to fix my a/c. I requested a callback, as I could not wait on the phone while he continued to search. He called me back about an hour later and said that there were no technicians available to fix my a/c. Now I have paid for a home warranty, and I am being told they can't send anyone to fix the unit.
I then send a chat to AHS only to be told there are no technicians in my area or the surrounding areas. However, I could find someone myself and pay out of pocket, and they would reimburse me after the repairs are complete. I explained to her that if I could afford to pay it out of pocket, that I would not have a home warranty. So the conversation continued to come with a final outcome if they could not offer me any help. NO AVAILABLE TECHNICIANS TO FIX THE A/C, NO COMPENSATION, NO ASSISTANCE. I think this home warranty is about to lose a customer for the second time.

Its been over a month since AHS approved new air cond. system. Since then it's been chaos. AHS said wrong part was ordered, local AC company needs to reorder & more back & forth nonsense. It's a 94yr old woman (my mom) here & a newborn (grandchild) here. No air in this weather = deadly. I tweeted them & they sent me a tweet that said click a link and someone would be in touch. There wasn't a link there! I tweeted back & no answer. AHS or someone pls send me AHS corporate number regarding the lack of professionalism & concern AHS has shown. It's to a point now (over a month) where no air system is dangerous. Local AC comp blames AHS, AHS blames local air comp & NOTHING has been done.
Hello, Virginia. We apologize that you and your family have been dealing with this service request for this amount of time. I do see that one of my teammates has been in contact with you through the tweet that you did send. Equipment has been ordered and at this time, there is no ETA but we should have that information soon.

I am writing this letter to inform you of a A/C unit issue we have encountered. Greenway was selected by American Home Shield to provide a replacement unit for our A/C. Greenway suggested to upgrade the unit from a 3 ton to 4 ton to cover the extra room with changing the ductwork, and this would fix the problem. We paid $7000 plus insurance paid their part and nothing is working properly. We have called numerous times, twice or more a month and we are repeatedly told nothing is wrong.
The last person who came to look at the situation from Greenway, recognized it was a complete MESS and verbalized it! But was unfamiliar with who had previously done the work from his own company!!! He suggested changes and modifications but have not provided me the documentation of the changes needed after several request. I have since contacted another company, who also indicated the job was not correct and if upgraded from 3 tons to 4 tons, the ductwork would have to be changed. American Home Shield is not trustworthy and does not stand behind good quality work nor customer services by any means.

Since the purchase of our home in August of 2017 we have had two large setbacks. One of our hot water heaters failed just weeks after purchase and more recently our AC unit malfunctioned. When the hot water heater was replaced the company that was contracted through American Home Shield (AHS) refused to replace the braided metal lines (used in new builds and the bulk of replacements completed). Instead they replaced the braided lines with hard soldered copper line at an additional cost of over $350. With the service call of $75, our total bill was greater than $400.
Just a week ago our AC unit stopped cooling. I requested service through the AHS site on Monday 6/4. The next day I received a survey from AHS asking if I had been contacted by the contractor. When I answered “no”, the AHS site suggested that I call the contractor. 6/6 – Contractor contacts me and schedules an appointment for the next day, 8 am – Noon. 6/7 - The contractor completed a portion of the repair but did not have the appropriate part to complete the entire fix. With a phone call, the repair-person verified that needed part was in stock and the repair could be completed two days later on 6/9.
6/8 – Scheduling again calls and states that the repair-person will arrive between 8 am – 8 pm. 6/9 – Morning – Scheduling calls and states that the needed part “did not come in” and explained the delay was caused by “thunderstorms in the area that prevented the part from arriving” (this part was verified to be in stock already by the repair-person). 6/9 – Late Evening – The repair-person calls and states that she is in the area with the needed part. She arrives and completes the repair at roughly 9:30 pm.
A valve failed in the central air which caused the refrigerant to leak. Since AHS only covers $10 of the $95 per pound charge for refrigerant (only 11% of the cost), our bill was again over $650. With the cost of the of the service call our total bill was over $725. A quick search of the contractor, Fast Response Heating and Cooling shows an “F” rating by the Better Business Bureau. So at an overview, we have spent >$1,100 for repairs on issues not created by us, completed by inflexible/sub-par contractors selected by AHS. Certainly, AHS has covered portions of each repair but frankly the value of this coverage is not worth the frustration that it creates.
Good evening Mr. Workman,

I had to have service on the A/C unit less than a month ago. There was a 5 day wait to get a service call. The company had a 1 star rating and plenty of bad reviews online. AHS authorized me to switch to another HVAC Provider. This one had a lower star rating and more bad reviews online and a 5 day wait also. I called AHS and they only have 2 providers for the entire Tulsa Metroplex. Now almost a month later the air crapped out again and I was being told another 5 day wait for a service appointment. I sweet talked the scheduler and got a "cancellation" for 2 days away. Also AHS only pays $10 per pound for Freon. The service company charges $95 per pound. OUCH. My question is why only two HVAC providers in all of Tulsa and the surrounding cities. Also why do they have such low service ratings?

Did not get any call but got an email that another technical assigned for second opinion. Calls few times to another tech and also called AHS, and they were not able to contact tech. Was told he should be there within 24 hours. Based on first visit it seems there was some issue with coil (wrongly installed) and AHS says this is pre-existing condition and not covered. Not sure what is the use of warranty if the non working AC not covered. This is my first time dealing with AHS and very disappointed. Planning to cancel the service.

I have found that if you need an inexpensive item repaired or replaced this company is good about doing that. On the other hand, my $3000 double oven has been trying to turn itself on since July of 2017 and I have to turn it off at the breaker each time I use it so it doesn't turn on when I'm gone or sleeping and cause a house fire. American Home Shield has been giving me the run-around for almost a year! They say it's in their contract to repair the item but they don't have a company that can successfully repair or rebuild it. They tell me one thing and my local company that comes and does the repairs another. I am ready to sue them... and if I have a house fire because of this oven... OMG! Can you imagine!?!
Good evening Peg,
I most certainly understand your frustration with the built in oven that is trying to run on its own. I would be glad to speak with you and help get this issue corrected.

I applied to this company in 2017 for my one bedroom house. In June of 2018 I needed them to come out and look at my washer which was making some noise. After sending out two different technicians over a one week period, they told me that they won’t cover for the broken washer since it’s not normal wear and tear. I have been paying to this company for months now and now that I actually need their services, they are not covering the cost to fix my washer.
The technician stated that a part in the washer was broken and it was neglected which caused further damage. The washing machine has been working fine and there was no obvious indication that would alarm me of a piece broken inside the machine. I wouldn't have known!! It is very upsetting to me that after all these months of paying (which I could just save the money) I actually have to pay out of pocket for this washer. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone! Waste of money and time!
Good evening Padideh,

I've had a bad experience with some of the repair people and I wanted to make sure that there was a certain service provided they did not send me. So, I called them to make sure they did not, and they did what I asked them to. The contractor who came out was very courteous, professional, and very helpful. He did a great job and the claim went well. Now, I’m having a little trouble with the pump that was put on but I'm waiting to see if it’s gonna fix itself. I have 60 days if I need to turn in a ticket. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

I am totally frustrated. I rarely use AHS and for the record, I have had AHS for 10+ years. Previously, I have had OK satisfaction. Not too much to complain about. However, the most recent experience has tried my patience to the limits. I contacted AHS at the end of March regarding my AC making a noise which my husband deduced that it could possibly be the fan. We contacted AHS on March 25 for assistance. They contacted Total Air, the subcontractor, to come see about the issue. They came out and PRIOR to work, we were told we had to pay $550 for Freon and what should have taken about an hour took over 8 hours. At one point when my husband went to check, the technician was almost upside down inside of the unit. After 8 hours, we were told that it was the compressor, which we had our reservations about. Well, he disabled the AC and we were without air for a few days.
Fast forward, after requesting (to Total Air and AHS) that the same tech should not return, the same tech returned to install the compressor. This job also took a while and another tech had to come out and help and finally it was up and running. A few days later, the air stopped cooling again. And once again, someone came out and said that the problem was the fan, which we originally called about. So, we were told that another one had to be ordered. So, a few more days without air. In the interim I asked AHS about whether we could get our own contractor to fix it and we be reimbursed because our patience was beginning to wane. Well, we were told that AHS could not guarantee our contractor's work and if something went wrong, we might would not get reimbursed. So, we were left with very few choices.
I digress. The fan came in and they came out and we were told that the fan was not actually made perfectly for our AC, but it would work. Well, needless to say, we started to have fan problems again. My mother lost power at her house and she had to come stay with us and said that the AC noise kept her awake most of the night. My mother has cancer and NEEDS her rest. We thought that the noise was louder than usual, but did not realize how loud it actually was. We also apologized to our neighbors because we did not realize how loud it was.
Thus, again we called for Total Air to get this straight. When they came out, the tech even commented that the fan sounded like an airplane engine. However, they couldn't fix because the part had to be ordered. It was still cooling and we could still use, so we had to wait for the fan to come in. It came in on Friday, June 8 and the tech came out to fix. Well, after a few hours, the tech said that when he powered it up the motor was blown. So, not only did we not have air, but I had to prepare for an event without air. We had to leave for a short amount of time and when we returned, the tech had left without giving us an update nor letting us know that he was leaving.
So, now we are beyond irritation. We even called the emergency number over the weekend to see whether we would get a return call. And we did not. Therefore, we were left to wait until Monday. After an email detailing our discontent, we got a call on Monday morning. My husband and I both got a call. The person I spoke with said that the part was faulty off the truck. The tech on Friday told me that when he powered it up, it burned up. So which is it.
This has been over 2 months of dealing with this issue and my AC is not fixed. And although Total Air is to blame with the AC being worse than what was originally called for, AHS is ultimately responsible because they sent this subcontractor to us. We called AHS to speak with someone with authority 3 times on Monday and after some discussion on why we couldn't speak with a supervisor, each person put us on hold until either the phone hung up or we hung up. Neither phone call was under 20-30 minutes.
One would think that after all this time that someone, ANYONE with authority, would have reached out to us to see what could be done to rectify the situation i.e. a new unit, compensation for a hotel stay, etc. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We asked for someone with authority to contact us and no one did. We got this basic response that the representative was reading from a prepared response sheet of what to say to customers in certain situations.
I got AHS over 10 plus years ago to be of assistance should something happen to appliances and or other stuff in my house. I rarely ever write reviews, but the horrible service has warranted this post. All we wanted were two things 1) for our AC to be fixed properly and since it hasn't 2) some consideration for possible solutions on how we could be accommodated. And as of June 11, 2018 neither has happened. I live in South Louisiana where it gets extremely hot and we have been beyond patient since the end of March.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield had the CKC plumber come over to my house and I was really satisfied. I found the guy to be a good plumber because he quickly found what the problem was and fixed it. He cut our kitchen ceiling and attached every pipe. Right now, I need to cover the open ceiling so I’m still waiting for the follow-up service.
Other than that, I looked at American Home Shield's website and it doesn’t have any follow-up system. It is the weakest. And when I looked on their ARS system, there was no representative. I tried to call their representatives' phone number but I couldn't reach anyone. I'd also really want to see who my contractor is under "My Status" and whether they are done or complete.

I wasn’t expecting to call American Home Shield nor were we expecting a problem up here in our summer home. I went online and got immediate response from them. It was late at night and the next day they took care of it. I’m pleased with American Home Shield but the individual that American Home Shield chose to do the repairs ordered a straight AC unit and not a heat pump. It took a week and a half to get it changed. I called AHS to check the status of the correct outside unit and the rep was very nice. They wanted to help with what they can do. They told me the unit was ready for pick up on Wednesday but they didn’t get it until Friday. We were just glad to get it fixed right away.
I called the contractors and left a message with them. They called my wife and said they will be out and when they were gonna be here. They were here on time but I didn’t know because looking at their truck, you wouldn’t know it was an AC repair. The technician hooked up the new unit and it still wouldn’t come on. So he looked at it and found that a fuse was blown. He didn’t have a fuse so I went to see if I had one but I didn’t have the correct type. He said he didn’t need it anyway so, he just took that out of the system. I talked to some guys after that and found out that it was the safe that operates the circuit board if it got a power surge. And I didn’t feel like booing him anymore so I just got another person. It came down to nothing for me.

I submitted a claim with AHS for the little valves that are underneath the sink that could turn off the hot and cold water. I filed it online and it was a pretty easy process. My only complaint with that is, when you go and try to submit stuff, a lot of times you can’t really submit exactly what your problem is. They don’t have enough options to accurately describe all the problems you submitted.
Two service techs then came out and they looked at everything and I had several different issues. One valve has a broken handle, one was dripping, and some were broken where they were seized. They ended up replacing six of the valves. They didn’t have enough parts on the truck to be able to do it that day so they came back the following day and completed all the repairs. They worked through the repair quickly but they didn't completely clean up some of the excess parts that they had from the valves. But other than that, it was fine.
I've used AHS for a few things. They've done a really good job on the heating and AC repairs, but when you get into special issues like plumbing, you may have a tougher time getting your problem repaired. Also, you pay a monthly fee to them but that doesn’t mean that you’re going to get every problem that you have repaired for the $100 fee. You may end up having a repair and they’re only gonna cover up to a certain amount of it. I would like a letter written out that it’s not guaranteed you’re gonna get everything that breaks in your house fixed for your service fee.

I had another claim that I also filed online when I had a problem with my furnace during the winter. The online submission process was great, however, it's a 24-hour time period until somebody gets back to us and then another couple of days until an appointment. But it was one of the coldest weekends in the year. When it's 10 degrees outside and the heating in the house is not working, one doesn’t have 72 hours to figure it out. I was later on told that if I call and let them know that it's an emergency, they might be able to do something quicker. But they don't give us the option to do that online.

We submitted the claim for that issue with American Home Shield online. The online submission process was awesome and very user-friendly. AHS put a rush on the service order because of the medical problems that we have here with the air condition and the breathing unit, and they did this in a very timely manner. The technician that came over to work on the unit was really knowledgeable and the service was excellent. We determined that part of the problem had been the pressure in the AC unit and the condition of the condenser didn’t seem to be a problem for the actual functioning of the unit. It had frozen over into a big ice cube and all they did was bleed a little bit of pressure out of it, and our AC has functioned perfectly since then.

It was not very clear until I got a call from someone and they said that they would take care of it. When the contractor came, he was very professional in figuring what kind of things and what I needed to do. He said that he replaced the things and if I still have the issue, I need to do more. The guy was good, but the issue hasn't been fixed yet and is still there.
The contractor suggested to wash it and repair some of the things. Then, he offered $400 for which I thought was too expensive. I can’t replace a new one for the part so then, I just left it there. I spent $75 but it didn't fix any problem for me. If I request another one, I need to pay another $75. I was disappointed. I'd rather directly ask someone if they can help do an estimation to fix the problem. And if someone says it's for $100 then I will probably ask them to do the repair.

So they got the contacts going and told me when the people would be here and they were here. They called and it worked out perfectly. The contractors were excellent.
It's easier for someone to buy a new unit instead of someone coming in and willing to do the leg work, to troubleshoot and see what the deal is. This gentleman that came out, which was excellent, did not stop until he found out what the problem was and it took him about three different times ordering three different things to fix the problem. To me, he went above and beyond. He even came in on the weekends when they were closed. He came in to make sure that the problem was resolved. He also gave me his personal cell number to call him no matter when if it did go out because the temperatures are well over 100 here. Since then, the AC has been great.
I'd tell my friends to definitely get American Home Shield. It's a service that you can't beat because you never know when something might go out and when you need immediate help. I prefer to speak with someone when I submit a claim with American Home Shield. But someone had me on hold for a long time so for my plumbing claim with Drain Go, I did it online. I wanted them to check my water heater and my outside water hose bib, and the person who came didn’t do anything with the water heater because he said he couldn’t drain our water heater if it hasn’t been drained every year. It would have rust in it. But my water hose is much better. It didn’t leak anymore. Additionally, he also fixed my faucet.
With American Home Shield, I didn’t like that you pay before you get your service and that didn’t make sense. But they've changed it, and it looks like they will charge your card after you get your service done. I also don't like that they don’t give you the opportunity to cancel if you want to. Every year, they just automatically renew me when they ought to ask and let me sign something saying that I wanna be on for the next year. American Home Shield is pricey being that I don’t use it. I’ve had AHS way from my other house and I didn't use it a lot. And the price goes up as well. With the amount I pay now, if I put the money in a jar every month, then I will have the money for whatever needs to be fixed. When I got it years ago, it wasn’t as expensive as it is now.

I have two AC units that are about three years old. One of them, my upstairs unit, went out. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and the first guy from Summer Breeze and Cooling who came out said that I had a leak. I asked him where it was and he told me that it was somewhere in the unit. He also told me that they were gonna put some type of leak stop in the system and that I was gonna have to pay them to recharge the unit. I agreed to that and that ended up being a $400 charge. That happened on a Friday and by Sunday, the unit was not working again.
Somebody came out on Tuesday and fixed it. He found that the problem wasn’t the leak but the coil. I told them that the first person didn’t look at the coil, that he just looked at it, and said it looked fine. The second person then told me that on the outside the unit looked fine but when you opened it up, it was completely rushing out. He also told me that he didn't have an explanation as to why that was happening being that the unit was only three years old.
But when we got back home on Wednesday after school, the unit wasn't working again! It took the same contractor a week to come back to assess the issue again then they sent the first person who came out. He told me that there was a leak in there. He put the pressure on and said that he could hear it hissing. I was standing there and he took the cover off. It was on the outside portion where he actually heard the hissing and he said it was right there. But he couldn’t fix it because he did not have a blowtorch in his truck. He told me that he'd see if their office would authorize him to go and pick up another blowtorch or if they'd send someone out. That was on a Thursday. He also told me that if he didn't come back that night, he'd be back the next morning.
However, Thursday night went by and Friday morning came along but he didn't come back. I called American Home Shield back and told them that my unit was still not fixed. I informed them that I was told by the tech that if he didn't come back on Thursday evening, he would be in the first thing Friday morning. I also told them that no one from Summer Breeze and Cooling contacted me and that they'd been out here several times. I said it didn’t make any sense for them to come here ill-prepared for a job to fix an AC unit and that from what I understood, something as simple as a blowtorch was supposed to be on the truck.
AHS then contacted the contractor and they said that they’d send somebody out right away. However it wasn’t until about 7 o’clock that I got a call from somebody saying he was on his to Home Depot, that what he had wasn't gonna be sufficient, and that he was gonna go buy a blowtorch and he'd be back. It was sometime between 8:00 and 8:30 that my unit was actually fixed that Friday.
I submitted a claim for the same unit before and from what I understood from a supervisor, it should have been an expedited call because of the temperatures during that time. I told the contractor that it was in the attic but the people who came out did not do anything because their insurance warranted them to have a pull-down ladder. I had a ladder there for them but because it wasn’t a pull-down ladder, they could not service or work on the issue to find out what was going on. The person that showed up called dispatch and told them what was going on. Then they wanted to give me an appointment two days in the future. But it was freezing and I could not wait two days, so I called someone else to get it fixed.
Aside from that, American Home Shield still wanted me to pay the $75 for the people who showed up who never asked any type of questions to ensure that they would be able to service the unit. They also didn't do anything! Eventually, after three months and calling four times for the same issue, I finally got in touch with someone that has been with American Home Shield for a number of years who had the authority to take care of the issue.

The price for the initiation fee is high with American Home Shield. It's $100 and that’s expensive. There are other places out there that are cheaper. Also, I wasn’t too happy with the company they sent, Complete Comfort Systems. They charged me $225 the first time the technician came out and he did not even come inside to check the AC unit. He only put some Freon on the outside. But the tray inside had water in it so I had to call him back.
I called American Home Shield but the technician couldn’t get back out here until the Tuesday after Mother’s Day. We had a back-and-forth issue on the phone and I told him that as a service repairman, he should’ve known to come inside to check the unit inside as well as the outside. Then he would’ve solved the water in the tray. We had a disagreement and he was kinda arguing with me. I told him I would stop the payment but I called American Home Shield and they told me not to stop the payment on the tech so I didn’t do that. He unclogged the unit inside to get the water out of the tray and the AC is running fine now. But the experience was not good and add to that the price he charged.

The old furnace developed a crack and had to be replaced. I submitted the claim with AHS online and their reps were very helpful. They answered all my questions and set me up with Air Pro. Air Pro was quick and efficient. I was very happy with them and I would highly recommend them.

Our A/C wasn’t cooling and wasn’t doing anything. I called American Home Shield to submit the claim, but it was weird because I was on hold forever. They were very hard to get a hold of. They said we could do it online, but I don’t really like doing anything online. The claim was for my house where my son lives, however, they took the wrong information. They were going to do it for the house on Creek Rock and I said that it was the one on Deer Creek. The A/C issue had to do something with the thermostat, so they replaced it and it took them two days to get it done. Other than that, as far as the air condition people go, they were really good. What happened was we had a net or something put in by CPS and our public service thermostat kept messing up. Finally, AHS put their own in it and it has been better.
I also had a dryer problem a while back and the technician said that there was nothing wrong with it. However, we could only use one side of the knob on the right and we couldn't use the special one. We've made do because I was tired of fighting with them and their particular appliance people. But I've been with AHS for years now and they've been wonderful. And I would still recommend them.

I've been with American Home Shield for 10 years so they must be doing something right. The online claim submission, which I did for the electric, was very easy. And the contractor, Politzki Electric, was very personable, helpful and friendly, and got the job done.
Thank you for taking the time to advise us of your service experience. We appreciate the positive feedback.

My washing machine had a problem with the panel. The light would all come on and it would start beeping when it wasn’t in use. It was very frustrating and aggravating. The contractor sent out by American Home Shield was nice and wonderful. He determined that it was the panel. However, it took over a week to get the part. It was an old Kenmore machine and I have a feeling that was why it took so long to get the part. Nonetheless, it didn’t take long for them to do the work.

I had a washer that went out and American Home Shield sent someone out and checked it out. There was too much to repair that they had replaced it recently. And the wait time was kinda long. From the time they came to check it out, it was two weeks later before I got it. My wife wasn't too happy 'cause she had to wait. We had to go to laundromat. Other than that, everything was good. I've never had a problem. They've always taken care of what I needed, so I was happy about it. The technician was also professional. I just saw him a little short time ‘cause I was going to work. But when I got there, he was still there.

We had a problem with plumbing this past week and the contractors came out and fixed it in about an hour. I was happy and they left. The people in American Home Shield are good, they’ve been great with everything we’ve done with them and we have no problems at all.

The water line needed to be hooked up to the refrigerator so we called it in to American Home Shield and it was fine dealing with the contractor.

I got divorced and I don't have anybody here to do any of the minor repair things that I need to get done. So, I got an American Home Shield home warranty. I have been with them for about eight months now. So far, I've only filed a claim once and I did it over the phone. The rep was great. They were right on it. They had Budget Rooter out here right away. So it was great.
However, I wasn't impressed at all with my interaction with Budget. First of all, the guy came out and he was very pleasant. All he did was he gave me a number of somebody else that I needed to call and I called them. They said, "Well, you need to have whoever gave you our number come and remove the hot water heater so we can get behind here and take care of the damages." But I was charged for the contractor to come and take the hot water heater out when this was all supposed to be within my claim and I already paid my deductible.
And then, the rep said that when they put the hot water heater in, it was gonna require all these upgrades, and I was gonna have to pay over a $1,000. And so, I decided to get an estimate from other companies to find out, and I saved $700. I finally just did a payout and went to another company. The guy took the hot water heater out, he was supposed to take it away but he didn't. He left it sitting on the side of my house. It so happens that in the next couple of weeks, we had neighborhood trash pickup, so I had the neighborhood kids move it out to the road, and they hauled it off.

A wiring shorted out behind one of the receptacles, and I filed a claim with Home Shield over the phone, which was automated. The contractor they sent out was excellent. They knew right away what to look for, found it and fixed it. However, we’ve had a problem with our washing machine and it’s been ongoing for a year and a half. It doesn’t air out every load. My wife said that out of seven loads she’d done last Monday, it only aired out on three of the loads. Almost everything has been replaced on the washing machine, and it’s still not fixed, which is very frustrating.
We had the appliance guy from Bulldog Appliance come out again recently. He looked at it, but he was not able to observe the problem while he was here. He said the company would contact us and see what they could do. It would be wonderful if the washing machine problem gets fixed and the next logical step is done. It’s about time we replace the whole machine. We also had a billing issue with them once, but that got squared away quickly. And overall, my experience with Home Shield has been good.

American Home Shield has been good to me and I've been with them for years. I have a claim with them for the microwave and the gas cooker. I call on the line and talk to a rep and do the same regular thing. It was pleasant talking to them over the phone, but it took some time for them to dispatch a technician. The microwave has been changed, but I’m still not happy with the gas cooker. The technician said he’s gonna call AHS back and give them his own findings. They say they’re gonna buy a part, but I haven’t received anything from them and it’s more than two weeks now. Everybody needs a gas cooker to cook.

My wife went online to file a claim with American Home Shield for our AC. Water was fading into the drain pan and the float switch cut the system off. Initially, I was thinking it was electrical ‘cause my breaker was tripping. The float switch did it’s job cause it’s on the roof or ceiling and kept it from going everywhere. I sent the unit back and then it kept tripping. The first guy AHS tried to send was in a training class and he couldn’t make it. And then my wife got on that he had terrible reviews, so she went back to AHS to request somebody else, who came out midday the following day and she was happy with them. The warranty is coming up for renewal and we are gonna pick it back up for at least another year or two.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was easy. I just did it online. The techs showed up on time and they were good. After the repair, the AC has been working fine but we didn’t use it much because it was winter. And then when spring came around, we noticed it wasn’t working again because there was a different problem. But it’s been fine since.

My refrigerator was leaking and water kept running from it. When I file claims, I want to call directly from my phone and talk to whoever I have to talk to instead of doing it on the computer. The representative I got was very polite and spoke to me with clarity. I appreciated her and I thanked her for her service. When the technician came, he had to fix and clean something up. Then the refrigerator started working back again so that was good. He was on time and able to get it done. At first, I thought the icemaker wasn’t making ice for four whole days and I called to schedule him to come back. But before he could come back that week, it started making ice. When he called me, I told him the icemaker was already making ice. There was no need for him to come back. When it was reset, maybe it took a little while for the icemaker to be making the ice.
American Home Shield is a very good company and they always have time. I had also called in for the heater before and they were able to send somebody here who was able to do it. They also did my plumbing for the drainage for the bathroom downstairs. So I really like the service and I appreciate them a lot. This is why I keep using it.
