I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor, Lang’s Locks, was good but they were just gonna do the lock part, not the knob and all. So, that was a little confusing. When I talked to American Home Shield, the rep thought that was odd too. But then she read it in the contract and that’s what it was so that was okay. I’ve had a good experience with the AHS reps and they were always ready to answer questions. I've been with American Home Shield since November of last year when I bought my condo and everything has been positive so far.

Have been dealing with American Home Shield for 2 weeks now to try and get my pool filter fixed. Each call puts me on hold for 20-35 minutes. Have been trying to get a cash in lieu payment as I can get a whole new filter from my pool people $300 cheaper than the pool company that they sent me. The pool people were very nice and told me they could fix it for $600 or replace it for $1200. I have been trying for a week now to get a quote from American Home Shield. First I was told it would take 2 days, then when I called after 2 days they told me 3-5 days. When I called after 5 days I was told another 2-3 days by Amber who seemed to be reading from a script and kept repeating the same lines over and over.
I asked for a supervisor and was told I could not speak to one until they had a quote. Each person that I spoke to had a different response and none solved the issue. In this day and age it should not take a week to get a quote for anything! The pool has been out of service for 2 weeks and I have a house full of children. These people have a script to read from and are not willing to help you. I have had this policy for at least 6 years and calling is always hard. Repair people are always nice and get things fixed. It is just the company itself that is very difficult to deal with. I plan on cancelling this policy as soon as this problem is resolved.
Good afternoon Margaret,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the pool filter repaired. Also, I understand that there are some concerns with the delay in response to receive a cash in lieu offer to use your own company.

Our air conditioning went out and we had a contractor that's affiliated with the warranty company come look at the unit. We pay $60 dollars a month for coverage and after the inspection of the air conditioning unit we were told that it would cost us $1500 dollars to get it repair. What am I paying monthly for. I will be canceling them ASAP.
Hi Stephen
I understand your concerns with the non covered cost that was quoted to have your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address those concerns.

After 3 months, dozens of calls, and multiple excuses, my issue is still not resolved. Bear with me, it’s a long one, but the fact that the story is long, should tell you that this company does not care about their customers and they have no interest in replacing the items that they supposedly cover. Here is what has happened:
Day 1: First hot day of the year in April, so we switch on the AC to find that it is not blowing cool air. Submitted a request to AHS on 04/22/18 regarding AC not working. No response. One Week later: Tried to call assigned technician to set up an appointment to have him take a look at the AC. Left a message. No response. 05/07/18: Re-submitted request. No response.
05/23/18: Re-submitted request. Finally Technician called to set up an appointment. 05/26/18: Technician came out to look at AC. He did some stuff with the AC unit, the thermostat and the furnace. He determined that the Furnace Fan is not working and he found rust in the gas exchange as well, which meant that there was a possibility of gas being leaked. He stated he would look for the part, but since the unit is old, it would be difficult to find, also that it was just a quick fix, it looked like the furnace would have to be replaced really soon. He said he would let me know within one week if he was able to find the part.
One week later: No call from technician. Called him and left a message for him to call back and let me know what’s going on, it’s getting hot, no AC. No response. One more week later: still no response from technician, so called AHS to find out what was happening. After multiple attempts to call (their systems seem to be “down” a lot…) I was able to speak to a person. She made multiple attempts to contact the technician herself to no avail. After a bit of coaxing, I was able to have her set up a different company to send someone out. It was obvious that this technician had zero communication skills, and it was important to me to have someone come out ASAP to fix the issue.
Next day: Another agency contacted me and set up an appointment to come out and look at my AC. The Technician came over, looked at my AC and then looked at my thermostat. He immediate said that he cannot fix my issue because apparently someone messed with the wiring and he did not want to take responsibility for anything going wrong. (What?) He quickly left and advised me to speak to AHS regarding my issue.
Next Day: Spoke to AHS, again after multiple phone calls and waiting on hold for absurd amounts of time. They had no answers for me other than to go back with the previous technician who doesn’t know how to return voicemails (Great!) She attempted to contact him and miraculously was able to speak to him. She said that he stated that he found a part for my furnace that “might” work. It would have been nice for him to call me and let me know, right? Oh well, It’s getting hot so I set up an appointment for him to come back to my place and fix the fan into the furnace.
So now we are THREE weeks post his first visit to our place and EIGHT weeks post my initial request to AHS. He arrived with a universal fan which he was unable to mount in the furnace. He recommended at that point to replace the whole unit. He said he would immediately contact the AHS to advise them of his findings. This was on a Wednesday.
I didn’t hear anything from anyone, so on the following Monday I called AHS to see what was going on. Again after the normal multiple calls, and systems being down, and being on hold for ridiculous amounts to time I was able to speak to someone who told me that the technicians actually have up to 48 business hours to contact them regarding their service request updates. SO, I have to wait some more. Mind you we are at 105 degrees weather and no working AC. So I waited. No update, of course. I called again, and again, and again. And again. No response. Multiple disconnections. Systems are down. I’m PISSED.
I finally get a call. (Yay!) It was from someone at the AHS department to remind me that my warranty is expiring soon, and he wanted to help me renew. Excuse my profanity but ** NO! I have ZERO interest in renewing my warranty with you. ZERO. I told him if he could have someone call me who can update me on what is going on with my AC/Furnace repair. He said he would have someone call me. (Right)
I waited a couple of days, but after no response from neither the technician, nor AHS, I called again. After the obligatory waiting on hold and getting disconnected from the clowns that work there, I was finally able to speak to someone with half a brain. She said that AHS has ordered a part for my furnace and are having it shipped to the technician to have him install into my furnace.
Again, what? I explained that the technician already explained that the original part was no longer available and he had already tried a universal one that was not so universal; it didn’t work. The person on the phone explained that they have access to other suppliers, so the part that they ordered should work for me. But what about the issue with the rust in the gas exchange and the possible gas leakage and carbon monoxide stuff. No, we don’t care about that we want to just have your AC blow cold air. She assured me that this is all I need to get my issue resolved.
At this point I’ve lost patience, lost faith in this company and it’s freaking hot in Sacramento. I had no choice but to say okay and asked for a timeframe for the part to be delivered to the technician. She said 2 to 4 days. Five days went by. Obviously no call from nobody. So I called (anybody keeping count of how many calls I’ve made? I am: 15 so far.) The agent I spoke to said that the part should have been delivered so she will contact the technician to find out what is going. He didn’t have it. SO she called the supplier.
Well, the supplier told her that the part got sent back to them because it was delivered to the wrong address. Is there a word that explains the feeling of fire bursting through your head and your ears? Well, that is what I was feeling at this point. I expressed my frustration, of course, so the agent assured me that the supplier now has the correct address and they would be overnighting the part to the technician.
I waited a couple more days. I called the technician, he didn’t pick up of course but I figured out after multiple times that if I call again immediately without leaving a message he would pick up the phone. He stated that he still did not receive the part and this time HE called AHS and they told him that the part was sent to good ol’ Houston, Texas. That makes total sense, right? It’s not too far from Sacramento, CALIFORNIA.
06/28/18: I called AHS again. At this point I call them more than I call my own mother. I got the pleasure of speaking to a guy named “Tom” Employee number **. The rudest, most despicable person I have ever spoken to in the history of my life. This guy refused to help me. He said that he can’t do anything for me. I asked him for a moment to check my account and see how many times I’ve spoken to them regarding this issue. He said he only sees about 4 or 5 calls. (Ha!) I asked to speak to a supervisor, not wanting to waste another single moment on this ignoramus. He stated he would have someone call me within 24 to 48 hours.
I hung up and called again. I spoke to a wonderful person named Brandie. She stuck with me on the phone, answered all my questions, but still unable to tell me why the part was shipped to Houston. Conclusion, AHS: they lie. She assured me that a supervisor would call me today. A supervisor by the name of Wilond called me. He was not much better than Mr. Tom. He said that the address was never actually updated and it’s the technician's fault for not keeping his address up to date. Mind you, the technician is located in California… So whatever. He said that NOW the address is correct and they will have the part delivered to the technician. I asked him about their customer service training. I suggested that they get Tom some help with tact and overall education. He needs to be working in a basement with no human contact.
So here we are. On the Consumer Affairs website, leaving a complaint. No working AC, and 107 degree weather. Do you think it is a coincidence that my warranty contract is expiring next month and AHS has been dragging their nasty feet for the last three months? Maybe. Do you think that having over 10,000 complaints on the Better Business Bureau and thousands of negative comments on the Consumer Affairs website, Facebook and other social media are an indication of their severe lack of ethical standards? Yeah. Any suggestions on what I should do now?
Good afternoon Kim,
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced since April. Also, i understand that the hold times and customer service reps have changed your outlook on AHS. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I have never had such terrible customer service in my life. When I call I am often on hold for 20 minutes for them just to tell me their systems are down and to call back later. I have also been "disconnected" several times with no return call from the person I was speaking with. The electricians they sent were inexperienced and left gaping holes around the outlets they fixed... I have been desperately trying to get my AC fixed for over a month but the contractors they use don't know what they are doing and don't show up half of the time.
It is going to be over 100 and we still have no AC. I have had to rearrange my schedule or take off work on 7 different occasions in order to be home for the AC people to come out. The plumbers they sent took 3 days to come out. Meanwhile I had 4 inches of sewage in my shower and couldn't use my water. Their plumbers told me it wasn't covered and would cost several thousand to repair. Luckily, I was able to contact my own plumber to come out and actually fix the problem for $125. If it weren't so horrible, it would almost be funny how extremely awful their service is. I have paid $225 to have their contractors come out and not one thing has been fixed correctly. It is beyond frustrating.
Good evening Kelsey,
I understand your concerns with the hold times you have experienced as well as the delay in service to have your air conditioner repaired. I would like to speak with you and help get your issues resolved.

I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB. I bought a home warranty with my home in 2014 (September) with a service fee of $75.00 starting every year. After that my central air unit have not been cooling. The first year they sent someone out to charge it up but we had to pay for each pound of Freon they use. The next year we come then they back out and the same people came. This time they found a leak and we had to pay for the Freon again. 2 weeks later it stopped working again. They claim they found some more leaks and we paid for Freon again. 2 weeks later it was out again. Taking this is in July in Alabama so they sent out a senior Tech out this time. They check the inside piece and it had to be replaced it. That took 2 more weeks.
Well this year when we start the unit up it not cooling again so we call again and this time they are telling me the unit has 3 recalls on the unit that I was not inform of and since it has been over 65 days I can use that for a reason so now I am out another service fee for the same thing from 3 years ago. Did a little research and find some more people that have American Home Shield and they have been going through the same thing. I really need for someone to look into the company. They are robbing people blind. Thanks.
Good morning John,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your air conditioner repaired. Over the past few years, multiple calls have been placed and Freon cost paid to complete the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

We always recommend American Home Shield. It's real quick to submit claims online and we pay upfront. But when the air conditioner goes out, we're sometimes waiting up to five days to get it fixed. That's the only thing that I ever really see as a problem, especially living in South Georgia. There's rarely somebody readily available. But this is the third year in a row that we've had Freon done here and the contractors themselves were pleasant. We live in an area where nobody is ever on time but they showed up pretty close to on time. Our AC wasn't working and the temperature wasn't getting cold. The contractors explained everything and the technician fixed the AC. That was three months ago and the AC has been going great since then.

We've been with American Home Shield for 10 years now. They're very efficient. Anytime I have an issue, they always try to correct it. Basically I call, they have a guy come out, and they fix it. It's a really easy process. Most recently, my electrical outlets weren’t working. We did the online thing and then the electrician came. He was really nice. He fixed the issue and now the outlets work great.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I do it by phone as I have found that I get a slower response time when I do it online. When I talk to a human being, it seems to work out better. I usually get a response within a day based on my experience. As far as American Home Shield goes, it has always been a pleasant experience. I had issues in the past where I did not have a good service from a different air conditioning company.
One thing I had learned is to look into who is coming and read the reviews ‘cause American Home Shield take the cheapest contract and sometimes that is not good. When I go on to Angie’s List or other sites and find that the review is 1 star or less, I have the option to change it up to different companies. Because I've had people show up at my house with no identification and an unmarked car. I also got one of them to come into my house and they don’t even have a magnet or a sticker on their car, or a name tag, or at least a logo on their shirt. And I don't like letting somebody random into the house. Other than that, I've had air conditioning issues a lot in this house and it was not necessarily the air conditioning itself. It was through the ventilation of the air conditioning. But everything is working good right now, so I have no complaints.

I submitted a claim over the phone when the blower motor on the furnace quit working. The contractors were pretty good. They were the ones I wanted and I didn’t realize until I made the contact that I didn’t have a choice and who it would be. The contractor was very knowledgeable as well. He figured out the problem pretty quickly and he knew what it took to fix it. It worked out great.

We had a sump pump go bad in all the rain, and I called Home Shield to submit a claim for it. Their representative was fine, but it took about five days for a gentleman to come out here, which was a little lengthy. And if it had continued to rain without a sump pump, my basement may have been flooded. When the young man came out and checked the sump pump out, he said it was bad and we needed it replaced. I knew he was bringing the lowest type of sump pump that Home Shield gave to replace it but I had known from friends that had Home Shield that sometimes, customers can get an upgrade. So I paid the young man for the upgrade and he came and put a heavy-duty one, which was what I wanted because very inexpensive sump pumps don't last and I can't afford to put a product in here that I don't feel conformable with.
The young man who came out, the contractor, and Home Shield communicated, and the work that was done was good. The only thing I wanted was a change in the type of sump pump that Home Shield gives. Also, every time Home Shield sends someone to come out, it costs $100. I had a belt that went bad in my washing machine the other time that Home Shield had somebody come out, and I paid $100 plus the labor for that one. And just to put a belt on my washing machine would not have cost that much. The service fee bothers me because I have two houses under Home Shield. But overall, I'm satisfied. Home Shield can help people save money on large items, but they may not be that helpful with the smaller things that need to be repaired in the house.

I placed a claim for a side by side refrigerator for about the 50th time. I don’t necessarily blame American Shield. I blame the contractors who just don’t know their job. They can't repair it. It took three weeks to repair the clothes dryer because they didn’t know what they were doing. After much ado a different repair company came yesterday for the side by side refrigerator. But it must have been at least six times beforehand this year and they still can't get it right. This repair company reckoned there's five new parts that need repairing so it's probably better to replace the whole thing. With 95 degrees of heat, we have no fridge or freezer and we've had to throw most of our food out.

They let me know before if I wanna do online with them but they’re generally good about getting me someone to call back within a couple hours. This time, I had a leak underneath the sink and it was all easy-peasy. The gentleman who came out was excellent. He was clean and efficient, and he could not have been nicer. I had experience before with my pool heater and AHS told me they would send somebody out here. The contractor looked at it and he said because I had a chlorine dispenser on the unit they couldn't replace or cover it. He told me they would put the claim in. He said he didn’t see that there was gonna be a problem but he couldn’t answer for the insurance company. Then all of a sudden, that became a problem. So I felt like they were just looking for loophole not to pick it up. When I called back the girl really didn’t explain it clearly. They read the paragraph or line under the contract and I’m not a lawyer. That shows they did their homework. But I wasn’t too happy with the end result because I tried to explain that the chlorinator was never used.
The chlorinator was installed when the pool was built 12 years ago and I’ve never used it. So the fact that it was there shouldn’t have changed anything. I didn’t wanna argue so I had to go out and spend $2,700 for a new pool heater. After spending $2,700 I don’t think they were fair in that. It was too cut-and-dry and they had somebody just call and kind of blow me off. Somebody should be a little bit more explanatory about why it was turned down. Somebody could’ve come out and said, “Let me send another pool company out,” and let them give me an estimate of what it was.
But I like the second experience. AHS sent Roccas Pool because the filter of our spa had a crack in it and was leaking. I explained what it was to the claims representative and she said she would submit the claim. We did the paperwork and she said they would have a local company contact me and schedule an appointment to come and look at it and see what it was. She explained to me that was $100 charge that I have to pay and asked if I wanna pay right then or later. I said after work was done and they had my credit card. The pool service company contacted me and the contractor was excellent. He replaced the part that was leaking and I had no problems. The repair, if I paid for it myself, would’ve cost me about $600 and I pay $600 in premiums a year. So right now, I’m probably just waiting to see what happens. Hopefully, nothing goes wrong and I don’t have to make a claim.
Good afternoon Howard,
I understand your concerns with the the pool heater that was denied under your contract and the out of pocket cost spent to repair it. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issue.

American Home Shield is a pretty good home warranty company that looks out for their customers. Every representative I have spoken to on the phone has been friendly, accommodating and respectful. And the companies they've been sending out have been doing a good job of taking care of the problem. However, with my most recent claim with them, I wasn’t satisfied with the customer service I received. First of all, I had to wait on the line forever before someone would actually pick up to help. And I’m not sure if it was totally their fault but they sent out a company to work on a leak that I had but they didn't and couldn't do anything. They just told me to call back American Home Shield and let them know. So I did and American Home Shield assured me that I would not be charged an additional $75 fee because the company was not able to do anything.
I was hoping that somebody would be able to come out as soon as possible, like the next morning which was a Saturday, because everything was soaked and my house began to smell a reek of mildew. I was told somebody would come the next day but no one did. Then, I was told somebody would come on Sunday, but it didn’t happen as well. I was calling in the entire time trying to figure out what was gonna happen.
American Home Shield didn't put in the report as urgent so when I called the plumbing company to ask whether or not they were coming out, they said it was the weekend so their office was closed. But if it was an emergency, then they would come out. It was just a whole lot of miscommunication during the whole process. Anyway, the company ended up coming out on Monday or Tuesday. they fixed the problem and I was pleased with that. However, I received two invoices in the mail to pay $75 for them coming out when I was told I would not be charged for it. So I called in today, talked to their representative and paid over the phone. But even though there were a lot of miscommunication, issues and frustrations, in the end, everything turned out all right. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

I'll call AHS back and see if the contractor can check the new garbage disposal unit for me before it goes bad too. The contractors that have been sent out have usually been awesome. But when the right part came in, it was changed out and it worked fine. We've had really good people that had come. The previous experience I had was with the water heater that went out and they had to change the water heater.
One of the things that was happening in the house and it still occurs periodically, is there's a noise, but I think it's because of the toilet. I don't think it has anything to do with the water heater. However, I called the company that put in the water heater and they sent a different guy and I didn't like him at all. He was a Mr. know-it-all and walked right in like he owned the place and he was pushy. But the guy that installed the water heater was nice as he could be. He even worked overtime to get it finished. When our air-conditioner wouldn’t shut off and kept on freezing up we submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. There have been two to three people who came out here trying to figure out why it kept on freezing up, and one person said it was a leak and they fixed the leak but it turned out it didn’t. So this guy found a different leak. Since various air-conditioner people been out here three or four times in the last two or three years, they finally recommend us to get a whole new unit and they had that done within less than two weeks.
We now don’t have to come home to the air-conditioner freezing up and a hot house in a 100-degree weather and take our daughter somewhere she should be cool ‘cause the hot weather causes her asthma attack. It just seems odd that we have a unit now that we don’t have to keep wondering if it had shut off ‘cause we can hear it shut off and it does sound like it's supposed to come back on like it’s supposed to.
Get American Home Shield if you ever want to buy a house. I’ve been constantly asking people and I found out that more and more people that have chosen to buy a house that AHS is who they have. One year we let it lapse and then we had some kind of issue and I was like, “Oh, no. We’re not gonna let this do again” because it cost us so much and we’ve been doing it ever since. It's convenient. After this one thing that cost us over $500, we got AHS back.

So I called Home Shield who then put me on hold and called A & E. We were told that the technician said that I refused him at the door. But that was not the case. My driveway's over a quarter mile long. He wouldn't see the house from the street and I have a detector on the driveway so I know when somebody is coming up. It never went off and we were home all day. He never came to my door. So the representative tried to reschedule it but it was gonna be a week and a half later and that was not acceptable. I told her that in fact, I didn't want A & E to come again and I asked for somebody else.
She said they have AAR and I said we would go with them. They had been here before and I was happy with their work. So she reassigned the job to them and AAR called me later the same day. It was going to be several days before they could get out but then they called back short of that time. They said they had a cancellation and asked if the technician could come in then. We were here so I said yes.
He came and looked the fridge over but he couldn’t find a leak anywhere. The refrigerator is getting old and he said something in the compressor wasn’t working at optimal. It’s causing the cooling coils inside the refrigerator to frost up. When that frost melts, it goes onto the floor. He did what he thought was gonna solve the problem. He insulated that tube and it didn’t have any more trouble with it until a couple of days ago.
But still, I’ll recommend American Home Shield. We’ve been in this house for four years and we've had several claims with American Home Shield. They have solved the problems with the air-conditioning and the furnace. The furnace was easy. It was an igniter relay had gone bad. But the air-conditioning worked only a couple of times one year and then the next year, it out was again. They actually brought out that system and we got a new one installed. I’m waiting to see what my premium goes up to this year with my experience. But hearing some people talk about some of the other companies, I’m glad I went with the one I did. American Home Shield was recommended by my realtor. She said she had never heard a lot of complaints about AHS and their website is not difficult to navigate even for an old guy like me.

We asked American Home Shield to fix the AC, so they sent a technician. However, he asked to do something that’s unreasonable at that time, so AHS said they were gonna send another guy. They sent another contractor the next day who fixed the issue right away. The first guy was gonna charge AHS around $400 or $600. And then, the technician that fixed the issue, we paid him around $800 out of my pocket because he said, "American Home Shield don’t want to do it, so you will have to do it out of your pocket and then they will reimburse you." But nobody called me. We tried to call them many times and every time they say, “Oh, we cannot talk about previous services because system is down, but we can take new orders.” So I’m still waiting for them to call me back to see how they're gonna do this. The AC is working great but I’m not satisfied at all with this last service that we did with them.

We were going to sell our house and one of the inspections revealed that we had cracks east of our furnace, so we filed a claim with American Home Shield and that was very simple to do online. The contractor called me up and he came out and took a look at the problem. He figured out what needed to be done and he handled everything. He was there the next day and he had a whole new furnace, and he brought two furnaces. Inspections were done again because of the new furnace. Everything went well and the entire experience seemed good. Signing up with American Home Shield is definitely worth the cost as you never know when those little things will crap up.

When I went on to the house to look at some cable wiring, there was a pipe that appeared to be completely disconnected from the rest of the house. I called American Home Shield and they set up for a company to come out, but then they had no availability for two weeks. But, they were able to get Bay Mechanical in quicker. I had the general manager out to my property. He was fantastic, super nice, took a look at the HVAC for me as well while he was out there just to make sure that there were no issues with that that they would have to come back out for. He took care of it all in one appointment and he said he was perfectly fine doing that. Since the repair, there were no issues at all. And so far, AHS has been fantastic to work with.

American Home Shield was recommended to me by the realtor that sold me my house. She had used them for a while and she had great experience with them. Since it was my first home, I went with hers and now, I have been with American Home Shield for over 10 years. Filing claims is easy. I do it online and I usually get a call within 24 hours, sometimes less. They’re definitely reliable. You get most things covered but just make sure you pay attention to what’s not covered.
I had an issue with my AC unit and they weren’t able to fix it. A coil needed to be ordered and it wasn’t part of the list of things that they covered. So I had to go outside and pay out of pocket for that. They didn’t even recommend someone else to come out. I went and found someone to come out and when they looked at it, it wasn’t even a coil issue. I wish AHS had better coverage on some things.
Still, my experience with them has been good. They sent someone to fix my gas stove because the top worked but the oven didn’t. But when the first contractor came, they couldn’t really fix the issue. They kinda fixed it but a couple of days later, it stopped working. So then they put in a request and informed American Home Shield that the situation couldn’t be fixed. Then American Home Shield went in for a second advice and had somebody else come out. When that contractor came out, they fixed it with no problem. I don’t know if the first contractor didn’t know what was going on and wasn’t aware of my stove situation. But the second contractor that came out did well. I have used the oven since then and I have not had any issues.

My garage door opener claim was the only one that didn’t go real good. When the garage door people called and asked me, I told them that the garage door was working but that the cover was falling apart and it almost hit my car. So I needed a new cover for it. But when the guy got out here, he said they can only fix it if it's broken, not if it's falling apart and still functioning. Why were they wasting my time if they were not gonna be able to fix it? If that’s the case, they should have said they don't do that and that I'm gonna have to replace it myself. I would've gone, bought one and put it up myself.
On top of that, AHS charged me $75 anyway for doing absolutely nothing and that part pissed me off. I told American Home Shield that I wanted my $75 back 'cause I was very clear and they said they have to listen to the call. But it's been a month since the technician was here and I have not heard anything back. American Home Shield is real quick about pulling their money out. So I liked it before when we had to pay the contractors when they got here, not pay in advance the $75. Had that been the case, I wouldn't have paid them for driving over here to say they can't do anything.
But in any type of business situations, you always have a one-off situation. I want to be sure I'm a little bit clearer and verified before I even pay because I don’t book it online. I call and talk to the people 'cause I'm old and I'm old school. If they want my business, they need to be talking to me. But except for this one instance, what American Home Shield does is good and I have recommended them. Getting a home warranty is a smart good thing to do. It makes sense. I work too hard for my money to give it away freely.

I was having some problems with the installation of ceiling fans. It was installed and it started working but it stopped. It happened in two different floors so it wasn’t the fan. Also, on the same side of the house, the light at the end of the walkway periodically stopped working and then started again. It was a home that I purchased last September and I wanted to have American Home Shield come and check things out. I called them to submit the claim and the contractor came in and checked everything out.
Everything was okay which was great but he told me that the lights outside were not covered under the home warranty. The one out at the end of the sidewalk is detached from the home and the other one is not part of the building. He said I could call not under the home warranty but I could call separately and then, they would be able to service it. Based on my experience with AHS, I would recommend them and I’m considering changing my home warranty for my condo that I’m renting in a different city. It was hard to schedule appointments with the other company but AHS had a reasonable window so I was able to schedule it faster.

I have been pleased with American Home Shield. I had a leaking freon issue and the first company that they were with was not good. However, the second company was awesome. The first company contacted within 24 hours, but then they never followed up. You can't live without AC here in North Carolina. Then I called and AHS canceled it and we went with the next one -- Comfort. Comfort was really good and I would give them a 5-star. I liked their customer service and quickness. They could come the next day. They are working from sunup to sundown, and I can see where people think that if they have to reach out and contact somebody in 24 hours, then they can wait a month to get in touch with them. But, that was not their mentality at all.
I would highly recommend AHS, especially to those who have all new appliances and something can go wrong. Somebody comes out to tell you that you need to get your head out of the ground and figure out that you did not hit the button right, instead of somebody charging you $150 an hour. So, that is worth it in itself.

I had an air conditioning issue and submitting the claim online was okay. American Home Shield was very expeditious about referring a contractor. But once the contractor comes, that's where the problem is. AHS sent some people who came up with some argument that didn’t make sense. They were trying to find some avenue to stop or reject the claim. This makes economic sense for everybody because if AHS rejects it, then the contractor has to do it on their own. They said it wasn’t covered so AHS sent out a second opinion. The second party came and they’re working on it. It’s taking a little bit too long. I’m working with AHS but they are hard to deal with.

Submitting the claim was easy but I found out that there weren't any manager since it was on a weekend. I had a one-year old and it was hot outside and the air conditioning is not working. Some people were helpful, but some people weren't. They sent somebody out who didn't know what they were doing. So then we were rushing on a Saturday trying to get somebody else out. But all in all, it ended up getting fixed. But I ended up having to buy a window unit to get everything handled. I had to stay in a hotel at first night because we weren't sure what we were doing. We weren't well informed. They told me that they would help a bit with the reimbursement of the window unit and someone called me and left a message saying they will call me back the following day. But she never called me back and she didn't leave a phone number.
It just seemed that the customer service folks at American Home Shield don't know what was going on, and they don't have a lot of information. I spent like six hours on the phone that weekend. I was on hold for probably an hour at one point, a couple of different times. So, it was just frustrating. Only fixed a couple items and left us holding the bag for all the other items of cost. We just moved in a year ago so there were issues needing to be dealt with. They fixed the microwave from 1985 and the starter to the oven that was delaying the start of my oven by 45 minutes to now just 20 minutes. Then they attempted to fix the freeze seal and just made it worse and now I have icicles growing out of the roof of my freezer and they say they won't fix it anymore. That they are done fixing it. So basically they ruined it and never addresses the knocking and pinging my refrigerator is having. They denied that service for whatever fine print they could get away with.
Then they were asked to fix my leaky faucet which the first plumber to them it was a water pressure problem and that was why it was leaking but if that was the case wouldn't they all be leaking? Come on... I'm blonde but I'm not DUMB! 2nd opinion guy saw the problem and did fix it... and thank you to him. Then I find out the crack in my bathtub was excluded. Great. Then they won't replace the Heater blower unit to my heater air conditioning unit (which was causing us to have $700 a month electric bills) because the last tenant cleaned the bowels out with replacing a the screws so it VOIDED the whatever that allows them the fix it for us. That was a $ 10,000 fix it ourselves (replacement) bill.
What are we paying all this money for if they are not going to help us out when we need it? The stove was really old and was leaking gas and had rusted through in spots and they told us that the rust was man made so they wouldn't cover it to be fixed. MAN MADE?!!! So our stove was condemned by the gas company but AHS wouldn't help up replace it so we had to pay for that too. Watch out for this company, they have lots of little clauses and ways to get out of helping you get things fixed. Over-all VERY DISAPPOINTED in this company. On Wednesday morning 6/20, I noticed small leak coming from the bottom of my water heater. I immediately logged in to my American Home Shield account and requested service. I received a notification right away that a service call had been set-up with Habit Plumbing in Escondido. Habit contacted me that day and said a technician would arrive on Friday a full 48 hours later. When the technician arrived he said his company only came to Ramona on Tuesdays and Fridays which is why I had waited 48 hours for service. He glanced at the water heater and said it would have to be replaced. He said he would submit his report that day and would probably return the following Tuesday to replace the heater.
On Tuesday the 26th, I contacted Habit to confirm that they would be onsite that day. They said they had not received approval from American Home Shield to proceed. I called AHS and they told me that had had some issues with their procurement department but that they would expedite my request. I called Habit back on Wednesday the 27th and they had not received approval yet. I contacted AHS and again was told that the issue was with procurement. On Thursday the 27th same discussion with Habit but when I called AHS that day they now claimed that they had not received the report from Habit yet. I called Habit again and they assured me that they had sent the report not just once but multiple times and had tried to call AHS to expedite. AHS still denies receiving the report and said they will still have to approve and authorize the replacement water heater when they finally get the report.
I expressed my frustration with Habit Plumbing and asked for another contractor to service my problem and AHS said they would charge me another fee if they referred me to another contractor. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the call center operator said she would have to ask for PERMISSION to put me on the supervisor call back list and that it might take several days for the supervisor to call me back apparently due to the high volume of customer complaints.
My water heater leak is now is flowing freely every time I turn it on to take a shower, etc. and has caused damage to the adjacent walls and is seeping under the walls and into my house. American Home Shield says they are not responsible for that damage and I should contact my homeowner's insurance. Absolutely terrible customer service from both of these companies Habit Plumbing of Escondido and American Home Shield. By the way my service call fee was processed instantly.

I have had an exterior faucet leaking for almost 2 months now. When I first reported the problem I also reported a couple of other interior faucets dripping. The first company dispatched messed up the interior faucet repair job and denied to repair the exterior faucet because it was frost damage which according to AHS it is not covered. When I demanded that they prove how it can be frost damage when I had witnesses that the leak had recently started (the house is in Texas) they accepted to send another plumber for a second opinion.
They did and their story has changed now. The faucet is not covered because it's not attached to the foundation of the house. When I told them that about a year ago AHS had replaced exactly the same type of a faucet on the north side of the house they said that they had changed the rules and did not cover these type of faucets anymore. When I asked the lady to tell me why did they not give me a discount on the monthly fee they charge me since they unilaterally decided to lessen the items covered in our contract the AHS rep said that they do not offer discounts.
When I asked her to show me on Google the type of faucets they cover she pointed to the picture of the exact same faucet I was asking to be replaced. She then told me that she was going to have the plumber send pictures so that they could decide. A week and a half later I am writing this report because you can guess what happened. We were with American Home Shield for two years about 10 years ago. We used them and they came in handy. Then we moved into a brand new house so we didn't need that. Now, we moved back into an older house so we have American Home Shield about four months this time around. I made sure I had it with that house. That came in handy 'cause our air conditioning went out within a year. It was the perfect solution for all the money problems. We didn't know that when it come up in the future as far as appliances and the coverage they had. It's the same thing with this house here. In fact, the owners just sold it. But then with it, we paid the difference to get the package that we want.
AHS is efficient and informative. Coastal Appliance came out to fix the ice maker. It was freezing in the back. The tech knew it was the second part, but AHS only let you replace one part at a time. You can't do something first, pay that work, do the second. They didn’t charge me for the recall to come back out for the second part. He knew it was that, but they don't want that for the answer. They want you to put one part at a time. It could be these two parts to replace both, but they only allowed to replaced one at that time. The tech said, "If you have any problems in a couple of weeks, just call me back." And he said, "You might, you might not. But I really think it's this other thing but they want me to replace this first, and it needs to be replaced." So, that's what he did. But they did a great job. I've had them twice and the guy is very professional, courteous, and knew what he was doing.
He told me different things that would have happened if it was something else, and it's not even close to being that. But he said this should fix it, and it has so far. He looks at them as the symptoms of the refrigerator, and he could tell pretty much from those years of experience, for certain things that are gonna happen. He wanted to replace both things ‘cause he said, “If I replaced this one thing, then I’m gonna have to replace the other. But they won't let me do that.” Maybe it would be okay, so that's why they went through the process twice on that. I had a friend who called me from Pennsylvania asking about American Home Shield. He was selling the house and he wanted to know who I use ‘cause where he wasn't happy with what he has. He knew I had used AHS before so I gave him the information. Hopefully, they get squared away and taken care of.

My well went out and when the contractor American Home Shield sent came out we thought it was a mechanical issue. They replaced a pressure switch and then it continued to act up on me, so then they came back out again. And then they thought the water bladders, since they were so old, was causing the water pump to flex the weight off and on. So I called AHS again and they said that the water bladders weren't covered and because it was above ground I had to pay for that $1,600 out of pocket.
So then it continued to act up and when they came back out again, that time the pump had completely stopped working. They had to pull the pump and motor out and when they pulled that out, they replaced it and a piece of pipe that had a hole in it as well. And then I received a bill from Ingram Equipment for $2,300. At that point I'm like, "Whoa, wait a minute? What is American Home Shield covering at this time?" So a girl from the billing department of Ingram Equipment, said that what normally would happen was I would pay Ingram Equipment and then I would have to collect from AHS.
I said, "Wait a minute. That's not what I've ever done. American Home Shield has always paid, and I haven't had to pay upfront." So then the girl said, "Well that's what we want you to do." I was like, "Well, wait a minute. You want me to pay you, and then file with American Home Shield, how do I even know you guys are gonna bill them?" I'm just gonna call American Home Shield and say, "Hey, reimburse me for so much amount." They're not gonna do that. But I haven't heard from Ingram Equipment yet so I don't know what the deal is.
But AHS is great. I never had a problem with them for the 20 years I've used them. The reps are helpful. They'll put in and say, "We're gonna use these people" or "These people around you that work on your equipment." And when I submitted the claim for the water bladders, they even saw that. I don't think they were aware that the water bladders weren't covered, but they did call and email me to let me know that the water bladder wasn't covered. They were pretty much replacing parts as they went along and everything is working good now. The guys know what they're doing. It's just that with the water pump like that, you can't see the pump because it's underground, unless they pull it back up and look at it. But the next time I'm gonna try and go with a different well company because I didn't like that they wanted me to pay upfront and then collect with AHS.

Now, I need to buy a new unit and they're not going to do that, and it's 1,500 bucks out of my pocket. They want to keep me having them come out to repair my AC, but it's not repaired each time. It works for a day, then it's not working again, and then they come back out. They keep making me pay all that money. They're nickel-and-diming me to death and this has got to stop.
Whenever I call AHS, I have to go through an automated system and I give the particular reason that I'm calling for. Then the system says either that I'm still under warranty or that I'm gonna be charged. The very first time that repairs were done in the house for the AC, the electricity downstairs went out and I had to pay to have an electrician come out. So, they sent an electrician out and said everything was fine. Evidently, the technicians that have been doing the repairs don't know what they're doing because they kept having to come out and fix something, and then the problem turned out to be something else. But I'm stuck with them.
It has been two months that this has been happening and I've got renters in the house. It took two weeks to get the part that was needed because they misdiagnosed the issue and ordered the wrong part the first time. So, I had to rent a window AC for my renters because I felt so bad for them. They had no AC and te temperature was in the 90s and it was humid. A window AC isn't great but I went through the expense of renting it so they could sleep at night. Right now, I'm on the phone getting estimates for a new air conditioning system.
If this is how they do business and they're not willing to replace the appliance that's not functioning, there's no purpose my having their warranty. The repair cost is gonna have to come out of my pocket, but I got the warranty so I don't have to do that. I'll probably cancel my service with American Home Shield because I am paying $100 a month for something that's not taking care of the problem. I'd tell people to stay away from them.

My ceiling fan blew out so I replaced it but it didn't want to work so I called American Home Shield. I had a doctor’s appointment and I couldn’t switch it so I had a problem with scheduling the appointment. I called AHS and told them that I needed to switch the time to some other day and they told me it was fine, so we scheduled it for another day. The guy then came out and my son told me that he was very polite, professional, and courteous. He also told me that the guy explained everything he was doing and that it was like he was working with him and that he liked that. The fan is now working perfectly.

I submitted a claim online to AHS because my AC wasn't cooling at all. It took three days for the technicians to come out and they were very professional, very nice, and knowledgeable as well. There was one time that I almost had to call them back, but the month had already passed. They told me that it might be too old for the trailer that I have, but it keeps on by itself and it wouldn’t shut off. They called me back to schedule an appointment, and it was already working, and I didn’t have time to be there in case they got there, so I just went with it. AHS is a good deal to have in case of an emergency. I like knowing that I have somebody that I can call and that they’re there to help me. It’s not a bad price to pay for as well.

AHS had to send somebody to look at my AC unit because something was wrong with the wiring and some other stuff. I called them and their claims rep did a good job in assisting me. I love them. They do a good job in making sure that people come out right away. They did everything in an expedited manner to make sure everything comes out like requested. And their fees are pretty low and reasonable. The contractor fixed what needed to be fixed thoroughly. Everything’s been good so far and I’ll recommend them. They’re very professional and I will recommend their service for coverage.

My father has two air conditioner units and I have filed a number of claims on them. I have nothing but high praise for the young man who's been there the last couple of times. My parents are elderly and he would contact me and let me know what the problem is, what the fix is and how to go about any other follow-up. He is excellent. Most recently, the thermostat went out and he said that it adjusted the temperature quickly. Apparently, everything is working fine. Filing that claim over the phone was fairly easy as well. They were very efficient. But we've had prior service calls and things were not getting fixed. There were conflicting diagnoses on the same problem.

When I submitted the claim online to AHS for the air conditioner, the technician called me that night and he came out within 48 hours. He was great to work with and since the repair, the AC has been working fine. I haven’t had any disastrous issues and I would recommend AHS.

American Home Shield has been good but I was not happy with the company I got assigned to for the air conditioner. When I called to get a status, AAA All Brands Appliance said they had already ordered the part but when I called back, they said that American Home Shield has to order it. I called American Home Shield and they said that AAA already had the part. But AAA said they didn't and that they would contact me as soon as they got it. Like that, it took them 14 days just to get the AC part. That was a bit too long. I'm in Florida and I have a baby so it was difficult.
They said the problem was the compressor which that was replaced a year and one month ago. But according to them the compressor only has a one-year warranty and we missed it by a month. So they had to order a new one. The guy who came here knew a lot but he fixed the AC last week and it's broken again. It just stopped working. We already contacted American Home Shield and they've contacted the company. So they're coming back to see what's going on with it. I'm just waiting for them to give me a call so I can get the schedule.
Also, it got me a little discouraged that we had to pay for another Freon replacement and that stuff is not all that cheap. American Home Shield needs to check the company that they deal with. But still, they seemed very attentive and if they try to help to us, there's only so much they can do. I'm very happy with American Home Shield. When we had the dishwasher claim, technicians came and fixed it on the same day. When the washer went down, the contractor came in the next day and fixed everything. I travel a lot and I thought that with American Home Shield, my family will be safe because they don’t have to worry about looking for people. And I was very happy with those two claims.

We had two calls with American Home Shield so far and one of them was almost a nightmare. I put in the call on December 18th to correct a refrigerator. And it didn't get fixed until March 18th. The technician was fine but they couldn't get the parts lined up. I called Home Shield, and I was on hold for 50 minutes plus every time I try to call them, it was another 50 minutes. That's on top of paying the $75 copay. The home office of Home Shield is not working and there's something wrong with the way the customer service system is set up. But the technician was competent, the parts eventually came and it took him minutes to put them in. So everything was fine.
For the second claim, I learned the process a little bit better. I went on the web, asked for help with my stove, then they lined up a technician, and they brought the parts with them. And within five minutes, we were done. So the second experience was excellent, but the first experience was not. Home Shield has a relatively simple online system. But they should fix their phone system, add more customer service representatives, and have them be more helpful and polite. And then continue on with monitoring all of the feedback, and don't blame everything on the local technician.

It was easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield online for the dishwasher. I was originally assigned to a contractor that never responded. After four days, I contacted Home Shield again, but they've been somewhat dismissive with the calls that I've made to them and it took me several calls to get a second contractor assigned. They then sent me another contractor, RDW Appliance Repair, and the technician, Roland, was fantastic. He helped me and he went above and beyond to fix the issue. Although the service took a second time, the dishwasher's functioning has been excellent since the repair. The contractors that have sent out in the past have been hit-and-miss. I've had some with whom I've had great experiences and others where I've had mediocre experiences. Home Shield could improve the quality of the contractors that they send out and improve some of the customer experience.

There was a switch in the AC that had burned up and the service guy that was sent by American Home Shield did a really good job. He tried to come a wee bit earlier, but my son-in-law couldn’t be there to meet him. Also, it’s in a farm so he worked with us to come back at a good time that suited everybody. He was extremely accommodating and that made a difference. He did a good job and it’s working great. The Sears guy who worked on the dishwasher was the same. He was extremely good, quick and did everything right.
But when we had a claim on the air conditioner, the guy prior to this last one wasn’t as nice nor as accommodating and I’m not sure if he checked everything. We had to call him back again after about two weeks because it was something different but something else went wrong. This last one was super and while he was doing the work, he cleaned things for us. I’m a little bit older, so I go by the theory that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so when this guy took the extra little bit of time to clean and check some other things, we haven’t had to call again and we haven’t had any more problems. AHS has good value for the money.

I normally call to file claims and the reps and I have always had a conversation that is very specific to what needs to be done. And they're very prompt in responding. Germano Appliance and Repair has come several times and they were wonderful. Germano is a man who owns his own company and has a lot of expertise in different appliances. He is excellent. The dishwasher was not turning on properly and it turned out that a fuse was out. One of the associates with Germano was in training and did a very good job. Jeffrey said that he was impressed with the way the young man had been trained and also the way that the owner of the company supervised him. Germano supervised exactly what he was doing the whole time. They repaired the dishwasher and we were back in business.
The problem we had is our refrigerator. It has been repaired before and the refrigerator is working fine now. But even though they’ve come out, turned it off and drained it, it’s still creating an ice buildup in the back of the door. We need to get someone out to see if the settings are correct or why the refrigerator still has an ice buildup. Also, we have hardwood floors in the kitchen and there had been an old leak that ruined the floorboards so those need to be replaced. But if we turn the fridge off, it’s gonna dump water down on that place it rotted out again. As soon as we can get the repair of the floor scheduled, we will call and get the refrigerator repair scheduled as well. Then we'll be able to do the repair while it’s pulled out.
People should also be aware that American Home Shield will do anything to repair an appliance rather than replace it. Some of my appliances are now dates from when this house was built in 1994. They are getting very old and at some point, we’re replacing them. But I’ve never had anything but repairs authorized and I’m wondering if AHS will do it if we really need to have something replaced. Nonetheless, the warranty is a good service and it's been very valuable to us. I’m happy to pay for the service as we use it.

It's been very simple and super easy filing a claim. My husband submits it online and we normally get someone to contact us really quick. If we've had any issues, they had been resolved fairly quick. When we had somebody come out to check out the AC, the technician did not get the job done in a timely manner. He came and assessed the issue one day but he couldn't come back the same day to fix it. And I kept having to leave work to come home because he couldn't do it by himself. He really wasn't in any condition to be looking in the attic. He couldn't get around very well. He was very nice and helpful though. My husband ended up calling and requesting someone else to come and do it. The same guy showed up with someone else to help him, and they got it done within five minutes. So it got resolved but it took a little more work.
The other people who came out to service the AC unit had to come out a few times as well. My husband noticed some additional issues that should have been caught when the person came out. He requested that the person who came to service the blower motor not come out. Another person came up from the same company. We had that resolved quickly and they did a really good job.
We've only been with American Home Shield for about two and a half months, and the rest of our experiences have been very positive. We had a plumber come in to fix the pipe once and he was very attentive and helpful. He was excellent as far as helping out with additional issues that we had. He answered some questions I had regarding issues that didn't involve the reason why he came out. And he caught a gas leak that I had been smelling. It was so faint that nobody else in the house could smell it but he actually noticed it and we were able to get CenterPoint off to come and fix it. That was a very good experience.
Good morning Kassandra,

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for our AC that was not working. It was not getting cold and there was a leak upstairs in the attic and then, there’s also a leak now on the outside unit. The people who came to our house told us that it was one thing and then they have to come back and fix that part. After they were done, it's been working but not a 100%. And the whole thing could be replaced, but they kept on patching it. So, they almost replaced everything without replacing the whole unit.
And with that, they’re also putting pressure on my other unit. There are two units and we’ve been using the upstairs unit. And the downstairs unit is the one we've been having issues with, which is actually the bigger unit. So the little unit is functioning for up and down, so we’ve closed doors that we don’t need so it’d have AC. Right now, the bigger unit is still not working. They came out on Monday and they supposedly pressurized it and then put 250 pounds of pressure and then came back yesterday. And I’m still waiting for somebody to contact me now about the unit right now.

We have a heat pump outside, an electric furnace and an AC unit in the garage. There was a problem that started as the heat pump was not blowing warm air in January or February when it was pretty cold. We live in Washington State and it was 30 degrees outside. I turned the heat on and I was sitting by one of the vents in our living room and after 10 or 15 minutes, I could feel the exhaust right next to the vent and it was pretty cold blowing through.
At the time, we were new in our house so I initially thought it was a problem with our thermostat setting. I was trying to work the problem out with our Honeywell thermostat and it seemed that everything was configured right. Eventually, I went to American Home Shield and submitted a claim online. I got a call from the technician within a day or so to schedule an appointment. It kinda got taken care of at the time.
More recently, I had someone out to do a diagnostic on the cooling and heating system to see if there was anything wrong with it in preparation for the weather getting warmer. We are now living about three hours away and I was going to be renting the place to a tenant. I wanted to make sure that everything was working properly before we got tenants in there. The technician looked it over and did a bunch of tests. Everything seemed to be operating properly for when we would try to have the system blow hot air and then when we were trying to have it blow cool air. The technician had his assistant with a thermometer by one of the air vents and he temperatures were correctly in the range that they were looking for, for hot and cold.
Back then, the only issue that the technician saw was that the system was a bit low on refrigerants. He said that he would keep an eye on the unit and it seemed to be operating fine. We've been using the system when we're in the house to keep the temperature within range and the new tenants haven't said that there were any issues with the system. Overall, I'm happy with the way it all worked out.

It's written into my warranty when we bought the home last October that we would get a free septic pump, and so I got that set up. The reps were helpful but the contractor who came was HORRIBLE. He was from A-1 Septic. When he got there, he didn’t know how to work on the system and didn’t know how to even pump it, so they had to send another truck to do it. I was at work then and my wife called. She told me that the guy was saying that it was not the system that they have in their data so they can't do it. The guy said that we show a 500-gallon tank, and it's actually a 1,200-gallon or 1,500-gallon. We didn't set it up so I didn't know what they were talking about. I got a hold of them and I told them that we needed to get with American Home Shield and that we had nothing to do with them. We were not the ones who called them but American Home Shield.
Then after all that, I got a bill for $600. I asked them why they were billing me for it. It was gone through American Home Shield! They told me that I have to pay for it. I told them that it was through American Home Shield and that I have already paid the $75. And the lady I was talking to told me that she doesn't even know American Home Shield! Originally, when she told me that, I didn't think she was telling the truth because she finally admitted later that she realized she didn’t even know that American Home Shield used them. It surprised me that American Home Shield, a warranty company, would call for me. And the lady on the phone told me that she would call and get it fixed. And she did. She called over there and told them what they needed to know. So finally, we got our stuff pumped, but it was ridiculous. I'll never use that company.
Also, I paid for the whole thing but I got five emails from American Home Shield saying that I hadn't paid for it. The way I set it up was they take my card information and then it pays at the end of the service. I've done that every time. I had the bank statement shown in the paperwork. So I called American Home Shield. However, when you call the number, it hangs up on you every single time. It'll call, and it'll tell you you'll go through the process of who you wanna talk to. And as soon as you do it, it just hangs up. So I sent an email telling them that I was trying to call back and asking what was going on. Then finally, I was able to get through to someone, and she told me to send in the bank statement and everything that I needed to do to show that I paid for it, and so I did.
This is not the first time this has happened. This has happened like two or three times where it showed that I haven't paid, and then they come back and tell me that I didn't. But it seems like they show the payment, and it hasn’t come out of my checking account. It's been a couple of weeks and I haven't heard anything yet because I got past due, and they were gonna ding my credit. Also, A-1 Septic was trying to come after me for it until I finally had American Home Shield call them. I haven't heard back so I'm assuming they did. But I was heated with the lady, so she probably doesn’t wanna talk to me anymore. I've had good dealings with AHS other than the billing process. I love it. I'd recommend American Home Shield to everyone. I was talking to some people at church about it because it's worth it.

That happened to a couple of different things and they ended up being out-of-pocket expenses. One of them we still haven't fixed too. After a few words with the rude customer service woman, I was given "Outside Authorization" to be able to call a repairman on my own, however, that also meant I'd have to pay out of my own pocket and then be reimbursed.
I was able to get someone out the SAME day. When I called back to get the email address to send the copy of my receipt, I was informed that the ONLY way I can be reimbursed is if I send through the US post office to a PO Box. What?!? This is 2018, why would it have to be "snail" mailed and the more efficient electronic mail not used??? I can only assume that it is a stalling tactic to delay payment on their part. In my opinion, this is VERY poor customer service. This may be very draining financially to some people.
I'd also like to add that they employ many foreigners with difficult to understand accents, however, they were VERY polite. The one American woman I spoke with was incredibly rude. They immediately cancelled the claim and basically said, "Sorry about your luck, but you didn't follow procedure." I was told to contact claims review via email, days later I received a denial letter.
Since 5/31/18 I have been trying to speak to a supervisor, but they are never available and don't return messages. Today I did their live chat and was told sorry, but they don't reverse decisions and they will not put me in touch with anyone in the company with authority to make decisions. In order to make it up to me, they offered to waive my next claim copay. I said no thank you, I want to speak to someone higher up and was again denied. We purchased a house and had our water test and it was extremely high. So we had it put in a system. I bought from Kinetico an Arsenic filter that takes care of our kitchen sink and our ice maker. The company is a good brand. They did a water test after I had originally done it. And then they came out, and they did the wrong water test to make sure that my water test was correct.
I didn't wanna get a whole house system as I didn’t feel I needed it. I wanted to just get a point-of-use system, and they offered both and I said I only needed the point-of-use system. The installation team was great. I worked with them for years because they are one of the companies in our area that offers this service. And I went with them because of their reputation. They were timely and honest. They provided the service that they said they were gonna provide.

Our garage door wasn’t working. I submitted a claim with AHS and the contractor that they assigned to me was wonderful. When he came out, he was right on the job, efficient, and very respectful to me. He also seemed to know exactly what he was doing and explained things to me. Initially, he thought it was the capacitor so he ordered one and installed it. But it didn’t take care of the problem so he said, we needed a new garage door opener. He happened to have one with him at the time so he installed it. I have my garage door working again and I’m happy. Also, there was a gentleman that called to set up the appointment and he was as kind to me on the phone. I had an interaction with him three times and it all went very well
I have children who have American Home Shield, too and they’re very pleased with it. They’re the ones that got me signed up for it and it was wonderful to me because I lost my husband back in March and I had to relocate. Usually, he would take care of all those kind of issues and I felt like AHS dealt with me very well. Everyone was helpful and kind. And I would recommend them because I had a positive experience. In fact, I’ve already told people about them.

My washing machine broke. It was making an ungodly noise and it wasn’t spinning. I submitted a claim for repair with American Home Shield online. But the contractor that they recommended couldn’t get to me for a week. I asked AHS if they had Metro Appliance Services on the list of their contractors. Then I did my work order to Metro because they're fantastic. I’ve used them for years and I wouldn’t call anybody else to do the repair on my appliances. They’re topnotch and I trust them. Their technicians are nice and friendly, and they're always on time and very reasonable. Everything has been operating perfectly since the repair.

I put chips in the garbage disposal and it clogged. It's an older house and it was remodeled, so I guess everything wasn’t great when it was done. So, American Home Shield had to come and snake it. Once I submitted the claim to AHS online, they emailed me back within 24 hours to let me know who will be coming and that the company will be getting in touch with me within 24 hours, and they did. It was a fast turnaround. I really like K & S. When they said they were gonna come, they'd come out on time and they'd generally fix the problem. And they were very knowledgeable. There was one contractor though that I didn’t like, but if you ask for certain people that you prefer not to have, then AHS won't call them into your house.
We've been with American Home Shield for two years now. We chose to renew with American Home Shield because we knew that they would send someone out on a timely manner and we never even looked at anyone else. $60 a month is not that much. If something happens, we know that we can always call because we have AHS. However, there are some things that they don’t cover. If the plumber has to go on top of the house, of course they don’t pay for that, we have to. There are some things that we have to pay fully out of pocket. It could be better covered though because I have heard of another company that once you pay, all of that is covered. So, AHS could offer a bit better benefits, but I'm not displeased with them.

We pay a certain amount every month to American Home Shield for our warranty, then we pay a certain fee when the contractor comes out to do the repair. We had multiple water leaks which started one month ago and my wife called AHS to file a claim, although I tend to do it online. The contractor was professional and he came out, but he had to go get some parts. We had to wait a couple of days, but he came back and he fixed the leaks and our shower, and we had hot water again.

American Home Shield handled problems appropriately, worked through them, and got resolution timely. We recently purchased a home and in the process of getting acquainted with it, we found plumbing leaks. The folks on the phone at American Home Shield were fantastic. They were very thorough and they followed the process. I could tell that there was a process that they were following and it helped. However, the first contractor that they sent out was lousy, had some questionable practices, and did not listen to our concerns. They didn’t address areas that were pointed out, and didn’t perform work in an appropriate manner. But the second contractor that was sent out went above and beyond and did a very thorough job. The plumbing is 100% fixed. I look forward to working with American Home Shield again when I have the need.

I put in a claim for the garage opener on my computer and American Home Shield's website was very good. It didn’t specifically have the garage opener and they weren't sure if it was the actual door or the opener when the company called. But they got it and a contractor came out. They had to order a part and then, the part came in and they came and fixed it.
Getting it repaired took a couple of weeks. The issue wasn’t with American Home Shield, it was with the Solinsky, the company that was contracted to do the job. The tech was so busy he had to call and reschedule twice. I was not sure what was going on. And usually, when they schedule you, they give you a time block. I have a little one that I have to pick up in school but I had to stay home all day and I had someone to pick the kids up. I was home from 8:00 and they finally showed up at 4:00. If it was a two or four-hour block, it would have been okay. But you can't put a time to repairs which I understand. Other than that, the garage door has been working great. We have used it a bit.
One thing though is the price went up. We have two properties and each property has American Home Shield. But they increased our prices and I didn’t even get a letter. I just saw in my statement and I went back and tracked it about three months back. I was being charged 90 and I was wondering why I didn’t get a letter about an increment. But I've told a lot of people to get AHS because it's a good thing to have especially if you have big repairs to make and a lot of money to pay upfront.

The first time I put in a claim online, I did it over my iPad and then I got an email saying who was going to show up. The only thing I hate is that it sometimes takes a long time for someone to come out. That's not all the time though, and it depends on what the service is. It's mainly air conditioning and heating when it's hot and it's a bad time not to have them come. Other than that, sometimes you also have to call back to get action from some of the people that they dispatch. The company that was first dispatched for our AC wanted to wait about five days to come out. But it was hot so we requested that American Home Shield send somebody else, which they did. That contractor got the job done quickly and the unit has been going fine since then.

My first experience has been very unpleasant and disappointing. My air conditioner was not working at the onset of 90 and above temps in Louisville Kentucky. Requested service online, paid the $100 trade fee and a company was dispatched to my home. When the service guy arrived, he did not even come into my house to check anything because when I told him my unit was on my roof, he said he needed a ladder and would return. He never did come back and in the meantime another company was assigned and they too were cancelled because they did not have a 40 foot ladder. A third company also was assigned and they told me they did not service my area. They were 1 hour and half from me and they also did not have a ladder. This went on for a week or so and finally out of frustration, I call AHS which by the way you stay on the phone waiting for assistance at least 25-30 minutes.
I was finally given authorization to seek my own vendor after I had to write down all the do's and dont's that I had to follow and credentials they had to have. I finally contacted a company that had the ability and who were familiar with the hvac units in my area being on the roof. I had to wait a week and half for them to come and when the time came for them to come, they told me they didn't deal with home warranties. Needless to say, I did not care anymore about a warranty being used and I paid for my repair out of my pocket. I am highly disappointed in American Home Shield not being able to dispatch a company with capabilities of handling such repairs as mine. I paid $100 just to find out that in the future, any ac problems that I encounter, will be my sole responsibility as long as I am living in the condominium that I now reside in.

American Home Shield came with the purchase of the house. My dryer was making some erratic noise, a belt might have been loose and the freezer of my refrigerator was making some noise. So, I called American Home Shield, they picked up and they sent my claim to Speedy. it was a very easy experience. At that point, I didn’t know who’s gonna be doing it. They sent me a confirmation by email that I should be hearing from Speedy in 24 to 48 hours, and I did. The technician came out and tore my dryer apart, not completely, and the belt wasn’t loose. He said something may have been stuck there temporarily when it was going around, but it has been fine since. The issue was corrected.
And then on my refrigerator, he knew exactly that the issue was the fan motor and he fixed that too. In order to do that though, he had to take my ice maker out and put it back in. He had to come back out after that because the ice maker wasn’t making ice. So he came out and corrected that. The technician was very professional, very nice and prompt. Usually the warranties go out after a year or two and some people go to the extent of buying the extended warranty. But I would prefer going with American Home Shield because it’s a one-time service charge. You can choose what appliances or electrical you want covered and that makes up your premium. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

My AC was leaking Freon and American Home Shield sent E & A Mechanical Incorporated. After they came out, the AC worked for a week. We didn’t turn it on because it wasn’t that hot but when the heat wave came, it was the most horrible experience in the world. The guy came, identified the problem and adjusted something then he left. But again, it was the same problem. He then said it was a different problem and I was like, “Why wouldn’t you figure it out in the first two visits?” So he was nice guy but he had no clue.
Then on the last visit, he said that it was not working because the unit outside is brand new and the unit in the attic is old. They refused to fix it and said that the only way they could help me out was if I spent $4,200 to replace the entire unit in the attic. And that didn't make sense to me. The technician sent it to American Home Shield who then said that they cannot fix it. I asked American Home Shield to send me a second opinion but they said no based on the notes from the contractor. They said that I had to replace the whole unit as E & A Mechanical suggested.
I was frustrated with the whole situation because they took the opinion of somebody who came out three times to tell me, “We apologize that we messed up. It's $4,200.” They could have told me that from the beginning. Plus, they sent out the same guy all three times. I said, “Why don’t you send out another tech?” But they said it had to be the same guy. I told them that he didn't know what he was doing and they said sorry but that was they way they worked.
I bought the house that way and I asked American Home Shield what they wanted me to do. But they told me that they couldn't help me. I asked what would happen if I got somebody to fix it and they said it had to be one of their people. But their people were incompetent. And this was not the first time. They also sent out a plumber before who was horrible. But they sent out a second opinion then and they were able to take care of it quickly.
We suffered for about four days in the heat wave but American Home Shield was not gonna hold me hostage in the heat. Since they refused to fix it, I contacted someone else and they said, “What is this guy talking about? All he needs to replace is this, this and this.” The guy did it and it's been working ever since. But I came out of pocket about 500 bucks.
E & A Mechanical apologized for having to come out so many times and reimbursed me for the $100 that they charged me for the Freon because it was the technician's error. He was the one who didn’t fix that leak. That was an inconvenience and it was the worst experience. This is the third home that I've owned in my life and I've never dealt with such incompetence from both ends. At the end of this term, I am definitely gonna look into some other home warranty because that was unacceptable. American Home Shield should do what's right and reimburse me for my expenses.

I called American Home Shield and told them I need an appointment for a guy to come out and check my ice maker because it's not working. They said they would send one out so the next day, a guy called me and asked me if it was okay for him to come up today and I said it was fine. So, he came out and checked it. He said it needed a new motor and it would take a couple of days to be here. So he ordered it and then he came back and he put it in. He said to look in a couple of hours and then in a couple of hours, it still wasn’t working. So I called back and he thought it needed a wire connection. He put that in and so, it's working fine.
The guy was nice and polite. I was in a little bit of a rage with AHS the first time because when I put in to get my dryer fixed, the guy came out, went through the dryer and said it needed a new dial. They had to order it and he said he would call back but about a whole week went by and so, I called them back and according to him, they couldn't find one so they notified American Home and told them so they'll probably be calling me soon to give me a quote on replacing it. I waited another week and didn’t hear from anybody so I called them back. And they said it was being funneled but it takes a while for everything to go through. I faxed a copy of my new dryer and everything so they knew I had it.
About a week or two after that, I received a check in the mail for it. If they explained to me that it takes that long, I wouldn't have kept calling them. If they said that everything is being taken care of and that I’ll hear from them in six weeks, I would have been happy with that. Still, I'd recommend them and overall, the experience was good. When I called, they had somebody out here within two days.

In the past, we have used American Home Shield's contractor Badger Heating for heat and plumbing issues, and they have not been helpful. The last time their guy was here, he told us we needed a new furnace because this furnace wasn’t big enough for the house when it was originally built, and that was why we have two fireplaces in it. We also got a letter from AHS saying they wouldn’t replace it because it was the wrong size for the house. So then, on my own, I called another fellow who is used to hot water boilers. He came in, pulled it and within 15 minutes, said, “Well, in this case, what’s wrong with it is the circuit board is out.” And he replaced the circuit board and it works fine.
I was not happy. AHS called me back later on and said they could use a different plumber. They also promised me that they wouldn’t use Badger Heating anymore. So this last time when the toilet had a leak, a different plumber came in and he did an excellent job. He was from Powell Plumbing and I would want them back again anytime. He was careful and was very considerate of my home that when he came in, he put little footies on his feet. He said another seal was so broken and it couldn’t be fixed. So, the toilet was replaced with a very nice Kohler one and it was very quick. I was very pleased with the service that I received as well as the speed with which I received it. The main one was the people from the heating system where I live. It was in the winter and my heat had gone out. The only person they had on call never called me back. Three days later, I called them and it was an answering machine. Two more days and I hired my own people. I paid to have a new one installed because I don't trust American Home Shield to give me quality items. I don't want a ten cent replacement and I've really been thinking about cancelling them for that reason. In my area, for heating problems or conditioning problems, I might as well forget it. I will never go through Home Shield. Also, when Sears came out for my washer, they came out three times and charged me the copay twice because they couldn't get it right. But those are the only things that I'm really hesitant about. I put in an AC claim with American Home Shield when the compressor outside went out. I did it over the phone and the wait time to get to them is an hour and something. And the first time, the phone disconnected after a 30 minute wait and no one asked for a number in case we were disconnected, which we did. And then, it was a bunch of going back and forth with the contractor, AUS, and them telling me one thing and not getting any results out of that. It was like they were trying to make money that wasn’t there. They were telling me there was a leak in the coil. And they had been here before and they had to come back and fix what they had fixed because it was all jacked up. They mentioned about replacing the coil and sent me a long spreadsheet with some thousand dollars that I had to pay out of my pocket.
AHS kept sending the same people out. I got a second opinion because they came out in January to fix something, then they had to come back and redo the whole thing. It wasn’t right. So I questioned the fact about the coil and come to find out it wasn’t a coil. But they wanted to charge me $1100 for the coil after the insurance company paid them. And then I called that guy that wouldn’t work on it anymore. So the contractors are the issue but AHS deals with those contractors. I finally paid out of my pocket to have somebody come out here and check it out and take care of things, and he told me that the outside was what needed to be fixed. And the issue still isn't fixed but I’m gonna get it fixed even if I pay out of pocket.
My refrigerator and my stove right now need to be repaired, and I’m headed to call them. The refrigerator's ice maker is not making ice. And the oven would sometimes come on, but it would shut off, then it would come back, then it’ll shut off. But I’m in discussions with my wife about trying to move to another homeowner’s insurance company. They hadn’t reached back out to do anything about it. They hadn’t tried to make it right. I’m not asking for anything free but they could absorb some of the hits that it’s been taking on me. The air conditioner wasn’t heating and wasn’t cooling like it’s supposed to, and they didn’t absorb any of that. I just all out paid the $75.

Our garbage disposal was not working and submitting a claim for it online with American Home Shield was easy. They gave me one contractor info, and he came twice. The first time he came, he said the garbage disposal need not to be replaced and he just unscrewed something. So, a couple of days later, the same problem occurred and it was even worse. The garbage disposal started leaking when the first time, it was just not working. So, I had to call again and the same person came and replaced the garbage disposal. But he didn't give me any sort of a documentation that it has been replaced. And I had been getting him to get the product manual for my reference at least.
And then, again, a couple of days later, the new machine that he had replaced stopped working. And I had to call American Home Shield back and ask them for another contractor who then came and fixed the issue. And then, they reported that leakage issue. The whole cabinet was being submerged under water within these two days. So, I had to call the disaster recovery team to replace my cabinets, which I had to spend around $1,200. Everything is done now but the process should have been really simple. It took one and a half months and $1200 for me to get the garbage disposal fixed. This has to be the worse replacement experience. My tenant has been without a dishwasher for over a month now (the dishwasher was ordered on 5/23 and today is 6/23). When the first installer came out to install the unit, the 18 year old son did not know how to shut off the power to the dishwasher. The installer NEVER took the new unit off the truck and left. They then called me to try and reschedule, I gave them the tenant's number AGAIN to set up the appointment but they put the wrong number in the system.
After calling the wrong number for about a week (and never calling me back - why, I don't know), they returned the unit to the manufacturer. When I finally called AHS to see what was going on, I was told we would need to pay an $80 restocking fee. For what I asked? Because they were dialing the wrong number? After several phone calls to AHS and a few hours on hold, they finally acknowledged that it was an error between the delivery company and installer's fault (who said anything that there were two other companies involved? Exactly, I didn't know that. I'm the customer of AHS not some delivery company and installer. I also assume they are one and the same - one company brings the unit out and installs it. AHS was trying to tell me it was my responsibility to work things out with the delivery company and installer).
So AHS finally agrees to not charge me the $80 restocking fee and gets the dishwasher scheduled to be delivered last Friday and the installer was coming on Monday. Surprisingly the delivery came on Friday - miracle number 1. Well, we knew that couldn't last too long. When the installer arrived on Monday, he didn't have some part to connect the water line to the unit. He tells the tenant's son to run to Home Depot as it's only a $5 part. Why doesn't he have that on his truck if it's that cheap? He also tries to tell the tenant that the unit is broken because the spraying arm up top is not connected - of course he tries to say it was like that when he opened it.
He is also supposed to take the old unit with him as that's what AHS agreed to do and what the dispatcher confirmed with my tenant when they called to schedule the installation appointment. Well, surprise, surprise, the guy doesn't take the dishwasher that's been sitting with water in it for the past month and now the whole kitchen stinks. So, I called AHS yesterday afternoon around 4:30 PM to try and get the installer back. I speak with a rep who says they'll get this resolved and get back to me in the morning.
Surprise... it's now 4:30 PM the next day and no one has called to get this resolved. This is the perfect example on how NOT to provide even a glimpse of customer service and a perfect example of incompetence and no personal accountability. How do all three of these parties stay in business (American Home Shield - warranty company, NRX Logistics - delivery co., and Miss Appliance - installer)?
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I submitted a work order to American Home Shield (AHS) midday on 06/22/18 because our air conditioner was making a very loud noise. An appointment was scheduled with Cote's Mechanical for 06/25/18. Later that evening the air conditioner went out completely and we called back to have our work order addressed sooner. I was told that my work order was expedited and out into "queue" where they would try to find a technician to fix our AC asap. I was told to call the next morning and if they had not found a technician I could call an outside vendor to do the repairs. I called the next morning and received authorization to get an outside vendor. An outside vendor, AirCare, came around 9 am on 06/23/18 and made a diagnosis for the repairs needed.
We called the number I was given by AHS to get approval for the diagnosis so we could get our AC repaired. AHS said that the cost of the repairs ($485) were too high. AirCare asked how much they needed to come down on the cost and AHS said they would not negotiate and would send someone within 4 hours to give a 2nd opinion. I paid a service fee to AirCare and sent them away. Within 30 minutes I received an email from AHS that I had an appointment with A/C Rescue on 06/26/18. I called AHS and they showed no record that my work order was expedited, any notes of what transpired that morning, or that dispatch was seeking a 2nd opinion. During that phone call I was told they would start looking and had changed my work order to expedited and to call at 1:00.
During that time I called 15 AC repair companies to see if any of them were available to help us if AHS couldn't find someone. All of their quotes for the same repair ranged from $550-$880+ and none of them would work with AHS. I was told multiple times that during past experiences with AHS (sometimes as a vendor) AHS refused to pay them an acceptable amount for work and the customer was cheated. I called at 1:00 and there was no record of any of my phone calls that day, they hadn't found anyone to fix our AC, and they offered us no help until our appointment that week. My husband and I discussed our experience and decided to cancel our contract with AHS. I called back on 06/23/2018 and cancelled my contract that night.
I was told that I would not be charged and someone from the retention department would call me on Monday, 06/25/2018. I did not receive a call on 06/25/2018 so I called that afternoon. My call was dropped twice while being transferred to the retention department. I called back the next day, 06/26/2018 and when I was transferred to the retention department my call was dropped. I called back and told the customer service rep about the dropped calls so they tried to transfer my call while staying on the line and said that the retention department was closed. I was calling during the business hours told to me when I cancelled my contract and so I insisted that they put me through to someone to take care of whatever else needed to be done to cancel my contract.
I waited on hold for over 20 minutes and eventually got through to the retention department. The representative I spoke to reviewed everything that had occurred over the past few days. Every time I called on Saturday had no record of any calls or correct information regarding my work order? I was told that my contract was prorated from the day of cancellation and the balance would go towards the "administrative fees" required to close my account. I had a reimbursement to submit and was given instructions and an email address to submit the required information. I verified all information multiple times to make sure there was no misunderstanding. I got off the call and sent the email right away. It came to me because it was not a valid email address.
I called back and spoke to a different representative in the retention department. She reviewed the details of my previous phone call. I noticed that she mentioned that my prorate was for today's date (06/26/2018) and not my original cancellation date 06/23/2018. I explained that the email came back. She said I wasn't suppose to send an email. I was suppose to MAIL the information to an address she could give me. More of the same from the weekend. I mailed everything to address and we will see if I actually get my reimbursement. It was very apparent that they are trying to wear me down with waiting on hold, dropped calls, changing the procedure, etc. so that they can avoid paying for my claim. My time was wasted and I was disrespected.

We purchased a house and got a home warranty from AHS as they were the best reviewed and said that an inspection and prior rework history on appliances was not needed. When our air conditioner gave out in the middle of the summer, they sent someone to look at it, and five days later (in the hottest part of the summer) they said they would not honor any repairs as there was a “pre-existing condition”. When purchasing a home, anything could be classified under this ambiguous definition. Additionally, we were not allowed, even after requesting, to speak to a supervisor for clarification. My impression is that they will pay out small claims to have good reviews from people but will refuse any large claims as it would hurt their bottom line. The attempt to not allow us to not get any clarification also was very shady/underhanded.

When American Home Shield hires companies, I don't know if they pay them good or not. Because they put the excuse that they don't wanna do the job or they say, "can't get the access to there so we can't do this business". Nevertheless, I got three houses with American Home Shield and the last claim I did, there was a leak on the shower and they fixed that one. They also checked out the second shower because it was the same thing. Moreover, they checked my sink and everything was good. It was the first time this company went and it was the first time they did very well. I was very satisfied.

The refrigerator quit working as far as keeping everything cool so I made the claim with American Home Shield. I got an email that said it was gonna take 24 hours but everything had gone out so I ended up having to follow up with CAL-PRO Factory Service immediately to see if I could get somebody out here on an urgent need. The technician came out that afternoon and it was a great experience. He knew exactly what the problem was and showed it to me. He did not have the part in stock so he had to order but he set the expectation and the timeline of when it would come in so at least I knew what I needed to do. He texted me to say he got the part in and that he would be out here that Friday morning. Then he showed up and changed out the part, and everything started working immediately. It was seamless and absolutely flawless.

I tried another home warranty brand that didn’t care for. The people they sent out and their whole process weren't as good as I thought. But American Home Shield seemed to be pretty good and I’ve had it for four years now. When the three-way switch in the house was installed incorrectly, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I had an awesome experience. The first electrician never showed up so I called AHS back and told them about it and to give me a different electrician. The AHS reps set me up with a new electrician, and the guy popped right out. He was very professional, he came on time and everything went really great.

I’ve had American Home Shield for several years and I did the claims over the phone but online is faster so I switched to that. The reps on the phone don’t tell you anything anyway so when somebody calls you, you can talk turkey. But the contractors have been very good, professional and courteous. Plus, they always solve the problem. AHS is a very good service and an easy way to get a contractor to your house. I don’t have to figure out who to call and I don’t have to ask for recommendations from people which is something I’ve never done before. They’ve always sent me good people and I just went with it.

They told me what I needed to do and they said that they’ll have someone to give me a call and that they’ll be out here as soon as possible. A tech came out and he checked my filter. He changed the filter, checked the air condition, got it back running and then he went outside and checked the air condition again. He did a wonderful job. Having American Home Shield is the best $60 something I spend a month.

You need to get a warranty when you buy a new house. I have American Home Shield and the first thing we had done was plumbing, and it saved us a lot of money. I've also had my washer and the air conditioner fixed. If we would've had a plumber, a guy to fix my washing machine out, and an air conditioner guy, then that would have been a lot of money. What we paid a year has already been covered plus some.
To submit a claim, sometimes we call. But when we had the issue with the air conditioner, we did it on the computer and my daughter said that the navigation was easy. However, it was a little tough having to wait as long as I had to wait to get somebody. We called it in on Thursday evening, and it was Tuesday before anybody could come out, and that was because it was a holiday weekend. It was 100 degrees, and it was rough, but we made it through. It would have been nicer if it had been a little quicker. Still, Rescue Heating and Air came out and the tech was excellent. He was very helpful, and gave me hints as to what to do to keep this from happening again. He found out that the line that goes the outside for the water to drip out was clogged up. And he cleaned it up, and it's now working perfect.

I've been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years and I've been pleased with the coverage and the service. I first heard of them from a co-worker who had bought a home that was not newly built. She told me how American Home Shield had really helped on a number of occasions when her air conditioning or the refrigerator went out and she was unable to find a friend of a friend. Since at that time my husband was alive and he was not a handyman, I thought it would be a good investment. If something did happen we would know immediately what to do and who to call.
When I had each of my attic units go out, American Home Shield was very clear when they explained what they would cover and what would be my responsibility. But aside from that, my air conditioning system is as old as my house and I have found throughout the many seasonal events that there are some companies that are much better quality service than others. There was one AC contractor that I don’t ever wanna have back. He fixed the first unit in the attic but when the second unit went out six months later, I had another company come in that was really good and they actually had to repair some things that weren't done right on that first unit. After that, I looked on Yelp and people were putting out that the first contractor would quote customers a little price but then they don’t fix the unit right. That would make them have to come back and I tried to give American Home Shield a heads up.
So when I had another issue with my AC, I called and spoke with someone on the phone. I assured them I knew I could do a claim online and I gave them my reason why. But the air conditioning company that I wanted was no longer doing work with American Home Shield. I asked the representative to read me the other names off the list and I picked the one that actually came out and did the work.
I liked that the technician kept in touch well through texting. He would say that he was gonna be here in so many minutes. Plus, his appearance was clean and his demeanor was polite. He didn’t waste any time either, and I thought that was really odd. Most of them waste time. They wanna go up in the attic and check the unit there. But he didn’t do that. I told him that I was sitting here one day and the air conditioning downstairs was working then 12 hours later, it was not. And he went right to work on the outside unit. He explained to me that I was one of a dozen calls in my neighborhood, which was a very unusual spike and he said there must have been a surge because everybody had the same problem where it blew a capacitor. It was really nice that he took that initiative to notice it was rare to get that many calls all in one area at the same time with this exact same complaint.
I thought that was really something to keep in mind. That was why I called and asked for the previous air conditioning company that had done major work on my attic unit that failed. A lot of people assume that the technicians are stupid but they're not. They're not book smart but a lot of them are really great. I appreciated that this guy noticed that this event had occurred and so he went directly out to mine to see if in fact it also had occurred in the same manner and it did.
I asked if he had to check upstairs and he said no. He knew that that was the issue. He also said that I could call him back if something is not right and he would come back since he was gonna be out here for a while. It was reassuring that he didn’t say that I would have to call American Home Shield again if something went wrong. Plus, I thought that if it was gonna fail and it's something upstairs in the attic unit, it would fail right away. But it has all been fine. And I really appreciated the fact that he was on the ball, that he was thinking like that so that everybody could get their air back on and he could get this many calls done within a reasonable amount of time.
American Home Shield has always been great and I tell everybody that I have them. They say this one or that one is cheaper and I'm like “Yeah, but you get what you pay for.” Besides, American Home Shield has several levels. So if this one is not affordable, they have two others you can choose from. It's not a matter of going over here and getting a better deal. People have to check out everything American Home Shield offers first and they might find that for $5 a month more, they get a little more coverage than another plan.

Submitting a claim with AHS didn't go well at first, especially when we submitted for the washer. We called AHS telling them that there was something wrong with the washer as there was a knocking sound. The appliance repair-guy came on a Thursday and he didn't recommend replacement on the washer. He just checked the washer and then said that there was nothing wrong with it. But then on Saturday morning, my wife turned on the washer and left to do some marketing and do some breakfast. When I came back home, my whole house was flooded. The guy that AHS assigned it to, didn't really check it. Now, I'm out of my house for almost two months and living in a hotel.
Another claim was for the microwave, which was cracked. I reported both the microwave and the washer with AHS, and the same people checked the microwave, saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it was just cracked and it was superficial. However, it was leaking microwave air out of it because of the crack. So, I requested that AHS get me another repair people that would check on it. And lo and behold, they sent this another company, which was good.
They checked the appliances and said that the washer was unrepairable. He found a lot of wrong with the washer, so he recommended it to be replaced. And the same thing with the microwave, because it was leaking radioactive air out of the microwave, it was being replaced as well. They're going to replace the microwave today. However, I didn't like the washer that they gave me, so I had to buy another one and AHS would reimburse me for that. But I have not received the reimbursement yet up to this day. They said it would take a while.
I was very dissatisfied with my experience with AHS because of the things that happened. AHS should get rid of that other company that they sent in. They didn't give out the exact solution to the problem. We cannot sue AHS because they said that it was secondary damage, but my lawyers are looking into that. Also, when I called them, they wouldn't pick up for the longest time. I would be on hold for an hour before I could talk to a sales rep or customer service rep. I cannot recommend AHS to others due to the instance and their service problem. I would tell others that AHS has the worst customer service. You cannot talk to anybody if there's a problem. But, they can talk to somebody, who will pick up right away, if they want to enroll or buy from AHS.
Good morning Ruben,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience to have several appliances repaired as well as the hold times to speak with a customer service representative. I am glad to hear that the second contractor was able to complete the work but I know there are a few lingering concerns. I would be glad to speak with you and address them.

Getting in touch with American Home Shield used to be difficult but now, I find it easier to reach them through filing claims online. I filed one for our dishwasher and they had to replace a motor. My issue with American Home Shield was that when I called them, I didn’t realize that I had to list every single problem. For example, I had a plumbing issue so I had the plumber come out and he was looking at my sink, and then I asked him to look at something else in the bathroom. And he said that he couldn't look at it because it was not on his work order.
I also had a problem with AHS during a winter and our central heater went out. It was one of the things that's covered under the plan I have but for some reason, they told me it wasn’t covered. So, I ended up having to pay around $1,500 to get a new one. I have a hard time with what’s covered and what’s not covered. If it’s listed on there, then it should be covered. And I had thought about dropping AHS but my wife convinced me to keep it. For the most part after that, it’s been fairly okay. We had some issues with our oven and AHS had a guy come out here and look it. The guy replaced something in it but he also told me it was something with our electrical box.
So then, I had to file another claim and pay another $75 to get the electrical guy to come out here. He told me that there was nothing wrong with the electrical box. So then, they sent the guy who worked on the oven back and come to find out, he had hooked up something wrong and that was the reason it was shorting out. So, I spent all that money and it could’ve been fixed right the first time. There was no reason for me to pay for the electrician to come out here, but they gave me a credit for that.
For the most part as well, the contractors have been great people who do the best job they can. With our washer issue, the guy had to come out here three times within a month. The washer kept doing the same thing. If the washer goes out, it takes them three or four days to get somebody out here, which isn’t a big deal. But then, if it goes out again the next week, then I’ve gotta wait another three or four days. That happened three times. And so I have an issue with that too. If the problem keeps persisting, when is enough and when does AHS go ahead and just get their customer a new one? I looked at the bills that the guys left for the warranty people and they could’ve paid for two washers.

One of the stove's four burners was broken and we informed American Home Shield for repair. They sent the contracting company and they came. The contractor asked for spare parts so we waited for two or three weeks. But when they installed the new spare parts, two of the flames were very, very low and I could not cook on any of them. They are working good and the flames are blue but they don't get high enough. It takes a long time to cook. If I put anything to be done by within half an hour, it's gonna take three to four hours. So now, instead of one broken burner, there are two and we use only the other two working burners.
I called several times and they sent the technician. We had the same complaint and the contractor did their best. The guy said the stove is working and I agree but we still cannot use it. And American Home Shield hasn't been responding to me since two weeks ago. Maybe the third party that they're using to repair the stove is not good. They should go with a different company or find a way to replace the parts again and do it better. They replaced the parts, but it was not the same.
Usually, my experience with American Home Shield when submitting claims is very good. Two or three months ago, with the dishwasher, they repaired it right away, very perfect. The technician replaced the part and everything is working good. I've been with American Home Shield for almost a year and a half now and it's only two claims that I did, one for the dishwasher and one for this stove. Recently, they sent me a letter for renewal in July and they increased the price to $60 monthly instead of $55. They shouldn't do that because the best thing that I got is the price.

They were very quick to respond once I've sent in a request. The contractor came out the next day after submitting the claim. He was very good, very confident, professional and it didn't take him very long to diagnose the problem. He got the parts ordered and it worked out best for me. I was here when he diagnosed the problem. He told me what all was going on and that everything could be fixed at the outside unit. So I didn't need to be here when he repaired it. It was no more than two days that he had the parts here, he came back and did the repairs. By the time I got home that evening, the AC was cooling great and it now works like a champ.
Fortunately, it had cooled off just a little bit during the two days the AC was out, so it wasn't unbearable. Still, I was happy they could get it fixed as quickly as they did. They said that they had to order the part, which I understand, and then they said that the part was on backorder. So it took three weeks to get the part. Then they came out to install the motor. Before they came out, we asked them to please call us because my son is out of town, so one of us would have to come and meet them at his house. And every time, they would never call us. They just leave a note on our door that said that they were there and that they missed us and we have to reschedule it.
The second time that happened was today. They were supposed to be there from 8:00 to 12:00. I told them that that was fine. My boys were roasting at the house and I was trying to get them out here. But it was not necessarily the contractor's fault and it would've been better if I was in the country.
I was also a little disappointed because the technician didn’t tell me what was wrong and what caused my air conditioning unit not to come on. But he might not have been in the best of moods. He got stung by a wasp while he was on my unit. Now, the air conditioning unit is rumbling and the house doesn’t get as cold as it should so I’m gonna call a service tech out to service the unit. American Home Shield has been very helpful. Most recently, I filed a claim for the AC that had the fan motor went out and the agent who I talked to on the phone was really nice. But then within six weeks, there were about four times that the contractor had to come out to fix the AC because things just didn’t last. It was irritating as we almost lost our renters. We had to pay for them for a month of rent. But, we accepted the loss and the contractor finally got the AC fixed. The last guy was good and everything’s been fine since he came out. As far as their part, American Home Shield tries to do their very best. People should know that it's always good to have that extra warranty right there for them.

Since then, it’s been fine and everything is working accordingly. It was a great experience with AHS and I’m maintaining my contract with them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. When we called in a claim for our icemaker that was broken, a tech came out within a couple of days to fix it. The tech said it would make ice and then he left. It made ice, but then that day we figured out that it wasn't gonna dispense ice. So, I called American Home Shield again. A few days later, the contractor came out to fix it completely. I just wish they had fixed it completely the first time, but other than that, the contractor was really good.

The process in submitting a claim was very simple. The online site was so accessible and using it was extremely easy. We didn't even have to talk to an individual and talk them into sending somebody. It was all automated and quick. The second you hit submit, the company that's gonna be coming to your house is already identified. Their address, phone number and name are there. It's incredible.
Our upstairs air conditioner was coming on but it was just blowing hot air. It was over a holiday weekend and the technician called on a Sunday. He let us know that he would be coming right out as soon as we could set up a time with them. He came out the next morning, which was less than 24 hours. He didn't have to come in the house and he was able to do everything from outside. He said the Freon was down two pounds and everything else was working fine. Home Shield dictated what he should do next and they recommended he put in the 2 pounds of Freon, which we had to pay for. He put a sealer in it too. They thought if it was just a pinhole then that would seal the refrigerant and take care of the problem. But apparently it was worse than that could handle. In about a week, the Freon was all gone again and the air conditioner was blowing hot.
So we had to call Home Shield again and everything has been working since the technician changed the coil. He also refilled the system with the refrigerant, which they didn't charge us for which was great. The technician was very responsive and professional. He knew what he was doing and he worked quickly. So far, we're extremely satisfied with Home Shield's response time and the quality of technicians that they are partnered with. It's way better than my wife and I expected. It was absolutely a positive experience all the way around.

I filed a claim over the internet when the evaporator core was leaking and although I’m old, I got through it so the website is okay. The Lennox air conditioner is only two years old and it had a factory warranty so all American Home Shield had to do was pay the labor. They did a good job and got it fixed. The contractor was good and friendly too. It was hot here but the unit had a little Freon in it so it worked okay to keep us for a week. We didn’t have to go to a hotel but they took about a week to get it replaced. Nonetheless, everything has been good since. The warranty is saving me from paying more money. I had to pay for the Freon and it was $300 altogether. But I would have normally called a local contractor and they would've repaired it but I would've probably had to pay $400 for the labor, probably more.

We noticed late in the winter that the vent fan's motor had frozen up. The temperature being cold, the attic didn't get that hot but as springtime started to warm up, we needed to get the vent fan fixed. I called in and it took about a week for All American Electrical Services to come out. The tech looked at it and said the motor had to be replaced. Then it took him almost three weeks before he came back again. Then when he went up in the attic, he said that he could not do the job because a roof joist was in the way. I would have worked around it though. He didn't do his due diligence when he came to look at it the first time. He never fixed it and yet we paid $75 to American Home Shield.
That aside, American Home Shield has sent some good people out to us before. When I called for some air conditioning work before, the people AHS sent were excellent. I recognize that American Home Shield is at the mercy of whoever the local contractors are sometimes. But when we give AHS a call, they tend to respond and get people lined up real quick so we’ve always been happy with that.

My central air conditioner went out and AHS set out a service tech. He said the coil would have to be replaced. He gave the option of replacing the whole unit because of the R-22 phase out and said that AHS would pay what the new coil and installation would have been, estimating about $1,500. I called a local company and they said that it would be about $1800 to replace the coil so the estimate sounded reasonable. I called AHS and explained the situation and they assured me that yes, they could give me a cash payout depending on what the tech reported and I could just buy a new unit on my own. So I had a new 4 ton air conditioner installed the next day.
When AHS contacted me ONE WEEK later they said they would send a check for $584 - slightly shy of the $1500 previously discussed! When I called to complain they said that the $584 represented what THEY would have had to pay (although that barely covers the cost of the part and refrigerant, let alone the 3-5 hours it takes to install). I was basically told it was too bad that both the A/C tech sent out by AHS AND the AHS rep that I talked to on the phone gave me the "wrong information". I had a very bad experience with AHS many years ago and got talked into using them again because "they had changed". Not hardly. Even though I've been with them 8 years I will be switching coverage on my home and rental properties to another company. Along with warning my realtor colleagues about AHS's unethical behaviour.

Well, HVAC situation is a mess at this point. Not sure what will happen, but I have two HVAC units that both went out. (It's 100 degrees here in Florida!) Both are older units and the coils are looking very rough. I was just told that American Home Shield rarely replaces coils but will keep patching them up. Just paid $100 for the service fee plus $225 for freon for one unit and probably another $225 for freon for the second unit. Why American Home Shield won't allow the repair guys to check for leaks on this visit is beyond me but I was told if the unit stop working again, that's when they check for leaks. Kind of silly and costly for me to have to keep putting freon in them. Anyway, also was told that American Home Shield will almost never replace a unit. I have no idea what's going to happen at this point with my system.
Updated on 09/13/2018: My experience with American Home Shield the past eight months with my HVAC unit has been an incredible nightmare. I bought this house 18 months ago and have been living in it for about a year. I started having major problems which my HVAC unit this past winter. It began to make a horrible noise in the middle of the night when it was going into defrost mode. In order to prevent it from just crashing, I called American Home Shield and they sent a service guy out. The service guy from Total Air Care in Jacksonville, FL barely looked at the unit and then told me that if the unit was still working there was nothing he could do. He left and I paid my $100.
Fast forward to September 2018. My downstairs unit completely dies and is not cooling. I once again call American Home Shield. They send a repair guy out again from the company that came out in June called Comfort Zone. This time they send a different serviceman than the one that came in June and the serviceman goes outside and declares that the unit is not working because there is dog pee on it. This is the first I've heard of dog pee on my HVAC unit. I tell him that the dogs cannot fit behind the unit and the house to pee on it, however, he says that that is what the problem is and he tells this to American Home Shield. Bingo! Ancient 10-year-old system, in which the coil has been failing for months now is now declared broken and it's broken from reasons other than normal wear and tear and so the WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. What a bunch of BS.
FYI - No other serviceman that has come out and seen this unit has said anything about dog urine, including the guys that came out in January 2018 and June 2018. But how convenient, the minute the unit actually fails and is no longer working at all, that is what the problem is said to be. And isn't it just amazing that the warranty simply doesn't cover that problem. I have wasted so much money with American Home Shield. Paying the $100 dollars co-pays for the service people to come out, paying my monthly dues, this company really is truly criminal. I advise anybody that is reading this comment to stay away from American Home Shield. They use their own repairmen who I believe are coached as to what to say and do. They will only take your hard earned money and put it in their pockets.

I have been waiting for a cash in lieu payment for 6-8 weeks and every time I call, I get the runaround. I am either told that the check will be cut on the following Tuesday (checks are only cut on Tuesdays) and that I should receive it within 10-14 business days; or I am told that I have not yet accepted the cash in lieu offer and that I will need to speak with the relevant department. This is very unexpected given my prior experiences with AHS. I have filed 4-5 claims in the 10+ years I have been with AHS and they had always provided prompt reliable service and great customer service even when my problem was not covered by my plan.
My under-range microwave went up in April. A service call was promptly scheduled for a service person to look at my microwave. He arrived on time and was great; he quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary parts. The parts quickly arrived and another appointment was set. The second service person also arrived on time and was also pleasant but he said he was afraid to make the repair because he was afraid he would damage the surrounding cabinets. Rather than repair the microwave, AHS agreed to replace it. Although there was a slight delay in receiving the microwave (most likely not AHS' fault), then the microwave was delivered for installation, the service people again said they would not install the microwave because they were afraid of damaging the surrounding cabinets.
AHS offered cash in lieu of installation (up to $125) because they could not find an alternate company to install the microwave. The installation cost $200; and I was told I could request/petition payment of the full amount. I made the request which was denied. As I said, my previous experiences with AHS were wonderful but this one has been so awful that I am considering switching to another home warranty company.

He sent a subcontractor who did not have the piece indicated. The subcontractor tried various fixes before coming to the same conclusion a frost board was needed and they had to order the part.
Now this was 2 weeks after the first person wrote on the order a frost board was needed. They left leaving all the wires on the air handler exposed. I took a picture of it and called them back to properly put back together. (the outside unit was also left open and not recovered) After another 2 weeks of nonresponse I decided to purchase a new unit. AHS told me that they would give me the cost of the repair I did not get to put towards my new A.C. I was told they would contact me. So far nothing.

Do not waste your money. The contractors they hire are very unreliable. They do not communicate well. It took 2 weeks for a faucet to be fixed last year and after three weeks of waiting on my air conditioning this month they claim they couldn’t repair it and it was not covered by the warranty. This is not a reliable company. I Switch to them after using Home Warranty of America for three years because they were cheaper. I am going back to Home Warranty of America. They have more responsive, local, reliable contractors.
Updated on 06/26/2018: The worse part about it. When I received a call on Monday from a Manager. They ask me why I did not reach out to the 3rd contractor and I waited 7 days and that I should have reach out to them. Unfortunately I gave up on reaching out to any contractors after 3 weeks of wait. I first reported the AC broken on 5/29 and I have called American Home Shield about 8 times (every time about 20-30 minutes wait and 1 hour on the phone). I have also called the first contractor 4 times and the second one 3 times. I do not have the time to call contractors to make sure that they are doing the job you hire them for! (You guarantee a response within 48 hours, this was never the case).
I had to fix my AC with my own contractor that my neighbor recommended. He was at my house within 4 hours after my call and repaired it the same day. You took 3 weeks to tell me that the repair was not covered by the warranty. That is totally unacceptable. I also asked the manager to get my $125 back because the first contractor repaired the capacitor but it did not fix the problem. She refused and said that the $125 is just for the contractor to show up. This is also a poor practice as you send a contractor, he does not fix the problem and you still keep my deductible.
I have cancel my warranty because the time to repair anything is unacceptable. The fact that I have to wait multiple weeks and call every other day AHS or a contractor is also unacceptable. I had HOME WARRANTY OF AMERICA for many years. They have repaired the same AC in summer 2014 within 2 days after my call and I just paid my deductible. You guarantee a contractor within 2 days of call but the contractor are not following through. Thank you.

Garage Door Opener: This claim was denied and I was forced to purchase a new unit with my own funds. Here is why: the contractor they sent to my house to inspect the unit deemed the unit functional even though the remotes would not open the garage door. I purchased 3 new remotes, all of which were OEM (GENIE) remotes, no aftermarket junk, and none of them worked. However, because you could open the garage door from the button inside the garage, it was deemed operational. Now, what good is a garage door opener if you cannot open it remotely? This forced my wife, with our 6 month old baby, to get out of her car, go inside the house and open the garage door and then get back in her car and drive it into the garage. Mind you, we live in an area that summer temperatures exceed 110 degrees.
Plumbing issue: We had a water pipe break in our attic, the plumbing contractor was great and did a great repair, no issues here. However, the hole he made in the ceiling was never patched. AHS NEVER sent a contractor out to finish the drywall and patch the hole. They simply wrote us a check, some 6 weeks after the plumbing repair, for an amount that would not cover the repairs. What I take issue with is the time-frame. Really, 6 weeks? And, AHS is "connected" to ServiceMaster. ServiceMaster could have done the repairs. In fact, the quote I got from my local ServiceMaster was far higher than the $100 check they sent us for the repair. AHS home insurance is like dealing with Fred Loya Auto Insurance. They look for every way to do the worst repair, on the cheapest dime but happily take your monthly dues and deductibles. Proceed with caution!!!

American Home Shield had their contractors come out on more than one occasion. The recent one was for the ice maker not dispensing, and my dispenser wasn't dispensing water correctly. I called and spoke to an AHS representative and I had a great interaction with her. She went through the procedures. She also told me about the procedures that they had to follow and how they would pick out a service provider for me, and if I didn’t agree with that service provider, I could pick out a different one, then if I have a lot of problems with that provider, I could either ask for the supervisor or I could ask to be switched to a different service provider. They have a list of providers.
The first time the contractor came out, he was automatic and he figured out everything that I needed. He went back and ordered the part although it took a bit for him to get the part, and the part was on backorder. When the part came in, they called me and set up an appointment for me to be home or have someone at home to install the part. They came and installed the part for me, and the refrigerator worked one more day and started doing the same thing. So, the technician called back for a replacement part for that same part that he ordered. But they did not have a replacement part for it so they ended up supplying me with a new refrigerator of my choice out of their list. I’m satisfied with how AHS handled the situation.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I do it online. It's a lot easier and more descriptive. Moreover, I work with a computer. Last year, my issue with them is that the wait time is way too long. Sometimes it could be 30 minutes, sometimes it could be 40 minutes. It was during summer and maybe a lot of people have a call with their air conditioning. But in general, the representatives are polite and professional. It's the contracts that are bad. I supposed to have a warranty that covers most of the cost of repair, it ends up I have to put a lot of money and making me question having a warranty.
One particular contractor was Amazing Plumbing. They were very bad, unprofessional even. I have several direct phone calls with them. They're impatient and doesn’t want to explain the detail. Additionally, the cost is extraordinarily high. For example, I have a one AC unit replacement and that unit replacement cost $2,700.40. Recently I just replaced my primary residence’s air conditioning. It's roughly a little bit over $4,000. So, the AC unit, I paid roughly like 60% to 70%.
The other replacement I have is my water heater and Amazing Plumbing cited a lot of regulation code which I believe they have fabricated. Basically, they asked me to pay another $900 which I repeatedly argue and bargain with. Otherwise, it would have been $1,050. So, the water heater even if I go to the street and just call a water heater company, would probably cost $1,500. In closing, there should be a way that American Home Shield can set a bar or filter certain contractor. The company is too big, they can't look into every individual contractor but when the client has issues, there should be a way that American Home Shield can have some influence on how the contractor is dealing with the home repair as well. From now on, I don’t see anything that American Home Shield would help me with other than switching contractor.

So I called back up to American Home Shield and told them about it. It was covered under warranty so they recalled the same claim and re-sent the same guy back out who had fixed the filter. So as far as what I put in the claim for, everything was all fixed up. AHS always seemed to be on my side. In fact, they had my back on that incident. Overall the experience with them has been fine. I’ve been using American Home Shield for a year and it was included with the purchase of my home. Their service is good and whenever I have issues, I go online to file a claim and a contractor usually contacts me within two days. We had one service for the air conditioner where they had a rude receptionist. But other than that, our interaction with the contractors was fine.

I have American Home Shield on a house that I own and have tenants in. As far as American Home Shield getting someone out and taking care of the problem, it's great. They send out techs three to four days after filing a claim. However, the communication is not as great as I would like for it to be. Sometimes, it's hard to get the feedback on what's going on from American Home Shield. I filed a claim on the phone for my air conditioner. When I called to ask them what's going on, they told me that I have to wait until the technician puts something in. It's like they don't know what's going on.
Also, the first time I filed the claim, I thought the representatives' professionalism was good. But then, when I had questions about why wasn't the work completed, they were a bit rude. That was the first time that I've ever had those issues with them, though. I've been perfectly pleased with them and the techs who have been sent were very professional. Having American Home Shield is definitely worth it. You don't wanna be paying for those things out of your pocket as they can be very expensive.

I've had American Home Shield for about four years now and so far, I just had two claims filed. And if the repair is scheduled, I work on the day so they'd come when I get out. When I submitted a claim to AHS recently, their reps called me right back and everything seemed to work out with them. The technician was very polite and courteous. I just got a new AC system last year and the technician said since it was new that maybe the Freon just slept out of it. So, they just had the maintenance and it's back working like normal.

He asked me what the problem was, explained it to me and then said, “This is what I need to do.” And he did that. He managed to solve my problem and was fantastic.

When I had a problem with my AC, Total Care was the first group that was sent out by American Home Shield to fix it. They came to the house and did not do what they needed to do. They supposedly diagnosed the problem and they just changed the batteries in the thermostat. I had to call them back out because it still didn’t work. They did something a second time and it didn’t work more than a day or two. Also, I was charged for the repair even though they didn’t do anything. I had to go to someone else to try to figure out what was really wrong because what they were telling me wasn’t what was wrong. So, once I found that out, I called back. I was upset, but the person I talked to told me that they were gonna solve the problem and it’s gonna get fixed. And so, they did.
They made an arrangement for me to pay for the work that wasn’t done last summer and to go ahead and have someone come out and fix it. The guy fixed it and worked around my work schedule and my payday. Plus, he came out on a Saturday, which he didn’t have to do so I really appreciated that. The work order for the claim was the same week and the contractor got here within a day or two of me calling and he diagnosed the problem. I postponed it for a little while just waiting for my paycheck so it took two weeks but it wasn’t AHS, it was just the situation. Since then, it’s been fine and I was very satisfied. But I was worried about that first company because part of providing the service is the person does what they’re expected to because you pay for that and if they don’t do what they need to do, that’s not just their reputation but that would be American Home Shield’s reputation too.

We have an old AC that is nearing the end of its service life and I bought the policy with American Home Shield for $600 so that if something went wrong with the AC, I could get it repaired and replaced. But because it's getting old is not an excuse for it to get replaced and I'm sitting around for five or six hours every day where it won't keep up when it's really hot and I won't be able to use American Home Shield's service to have it fixed until it dies. That means if it doesn't die in three years, I have to pay $600 a year just to keep it, so that when it dies, then I won't have to pay an arm and a leg to get it replaced, or I can just go ahead and get it replaced myself right now and be done with it. So I'm not really happy with that particular aspect of it.
The interactions with the representative from American Home Shield and the contractors have been fine. And the contractors were very nice. When a guy comes out and does a diagnostic, the AC doesn't keep up with the hot weather and it's not considered a deficiency of performance by AHS. In other words, it was designed to keep up with the hot weather, not keep with hot weather. To me, it's either fixed or it's not fixed. If the thing is not keeping up in the hot weather, to my definition, there's something wrong with the air conditioner. But with American Home Shield, there's nothing wrong with it at all as long as it's running. It could die tomorrow or it could die five years from now.
So, I'm stuck with a hot house during the summer for four or five hours while I'm waiting for the AC to die. If it's not working, then AHS should do something about it. I have guests over and I gotta pull out a bunch of fans, so it's really inconvenient and there's nothing I can do about it. A new unit's gonna cost $5,000, but I don't have $5,000. The policy they have is not very customer-centric. They're saving in sales money by not having to replace it because it should be able to keep up with the weather, but it's not a fair policy.
I understand your concerns with the cost comparison of the warranty and whether it is better to repair or replace a unit. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your air conditioner service request with the best possible solution.

Our air conditioner was acting up and I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out. He was real nice and he fixed it. What I liked about it is he explained things and looked over everything. It took time because it was outside and he also had to go up in our attic and it was super hot. He was an older gentleman and I went and offered him some water because I figured he was thirsty from being up in the attic. He wouldn't take me for it but he had some water out in the truck and that's okay. He got it fixed. He also had someone else after us but he didn’t hurry up. He just wanted to get both places done.
It was a nice experience. It was one of those days it was gonna be hot and you go and then all of a sudden, you don’t have no air on in your air conditioner. And AHS was real helpful. The only thing was when I went to go to pay my service charge, I couldn't find where to pay it at. I don’t know if it was just the website or I wasn’t looking in the right spot because I hadn’t ever used them before. This is my first time so I was kinda new at it. While I go in there where they said "Pay" I couldn't see anywhere to pay it at. Maybe they need to have a little pamphlet that spelled it out more. I was supposed to call them but we live out in the rural area so I wasn’t sure and I wouldn't have known who to call.
But I am real happy with the company, with who they send out. And I didn’t have to wait for a day or so to have someone come out. It's a very valuable warranty. It's something that everyone should have. When we bought the house a couple of years ago it was all inspected and we hadn’t had any problem. And then, all of a sudden, there's nowhere to know when the problem is going to hit. It could have been the washer-dryer or all these appliances on it too. The warranty is really nice when you're on a fixed income that you don’t have all that huge amount.

I had a contract with American Home Shield for about three years and had no problems dealing with them. When I was gonna get ready to sell my condo, I went back with them upon the advice of my realtor. So, I had the warranty for a few months recently but eventually I cancelled it. I submitted a claim online for an older air conditioner that I have. It has a leak in the pipe that goes back into the home and every time we refill the unit with Freon, the Freon goes back out after a day or two. The air conditioning people put the inductor and said that the leak in the pipe was due to when the roofers worked on the roof. But I don’t own the roof, so I have no control over it.
The tech from AMP who came was friendly doing his job, however, they never completed their contract. They came out the first time and filled the unit with Freon but they never came back out the second time to repair it. I called them and they said they would be back out but they were really busy and behind schedule. They dropped off the face of the earth as far as I’m concerned because I called them a couple of times and they didn’t show back up.
Good morning Janet,
I understand that you have experienced an issue to have the air conditioner system repaired prior to selling your condo. I would be glad to speak with you and address and concerns that you have and resolve your experience.

There was an issue with our outlet and it spread a little bit in my house. We were just having a simple problem and then all of a sudden, we lost electricity in the closet in our bedroom. We also lost all the plugs in our living room. We called American Home Shield to file a claim for it and they were very professional. When the gentleman came out, he was able to diagnose it pretty quickly and found the source of it. He said that the problem started from a location at the front door where there were three switches. There was one switch for the eve light, one for the light at the entryway outside and one for the motion light.
We had installed some timers into those switches so they would come on at a certain time every night and we could program the timers for the different times of the year. We put this a couple of years ago and somewhere in there, there was a short with the wiring. Then once the gentleman fixed it, everything else started working. He was very knowledgeable. The only thing that’s not working now is the eve lights outside. Nevertheless, we were very satisfied with the professionalism and timeliness of AHS.

Our refrigerator was not cooling and then it quit making ice. I made a claim on the first of June. I'm very unhappy about the technicians. They started the first week in June, and I've been without a refrigerator for the last two weeks. And I've had four different technicians. Each one of them, when they come, they say, “The guy who was here before, that’s not what's wrong with it, and he ordered all these parts. I'm sending them back, and I'm ordering what I think it is”.
Now this last time, my husband liked the technician, who ordered some parts. They arrived two days ago, but the soonest they could schedule me a technician was Thursday, the 28th. So I'm beginning to think I can't get my refrigerator fixed, and not because they can't find the parts, and it's not repairable. I think it is. It's just that Sears can't send me technicians on a frequent basis. Every time a new technician comes out, that's another week or a week and a half to reorder new parts and then schedule somebody out here. Nevertheless, we have used AHS quite a bit. I believe we've gotten a new hot water heater using that. We had a brand new heat and air system installed a couple of summers ago. It was beneficial.
Good afternoon Sharla,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issue resolved.

I had a claim for my AC and the first contractor that AHS sent which was from some place in Austin told it would take two weeks before they could go out. So, I called them and said that that was unacceptable and I couldn't do it. The house is a rental house and the lady has six kids and it's hot there. So, they gave me this Arctic air conditioning and every time I look them up, I couldn't find an address or anything. I called the number and finally, they answered. I told the guy that their message doesn't even tell who I'm calling when it goes to the answering machine. And then it says, "Leave a message for" and it doesn't say anything. I left a message and hoped I'm at the right number.
The tech was out Friday afternoon about 4:04 and said he didn't hear anything back. He was gonna go and get a blower motor for the air conditioner unit in the attic. He asked what was about the AC that was not cooling. I told him that it was hot up there. I waited and I called about 10:00 o'clock and he said, "I'll get approval." I asked if he ever called AHS yet and if he got an approval. He said "No. Not yet" and he turned over to some girl and I then I thought, "I'll call American Home Shield." They said, "No, she couldn't do with the customer service," but she got a hold of me and told me I had to call the other number and get her 'okay'.
And then, I didn't hear anything. I called him and he said, "They're supposed to call you." I said that was an hour ago and asked him to talk to AHS. And I said, "He won't tell me anything." So I called and got hold of somebody and I was told that they rejected the claim because the technician said the AC was dirty, not filter-changed and that's what burned it up. The outside unit has been changed out, not the one in the attic. The last time the outside unit was done was in '98, it has been 20 years.
So, I told the girl at AHS that if she's going to deny the claim because the guy told her that we didn't change filters, any amount of dirt would get by the filters and for 20 years, it would get dirty up in the attic. Twenty years of constant use, it is understandable it would burn up. I told her that I was not sure if the guy checked the capacitor and see if that was the problem. He just said it would not work. I figured he didn't wanna go up in the attic and fix it. Also, he wouldn't give the address to me. She listened, but she was like everything else. They turned me over to the cancellation and she said that if I'm upset and don't agree with the technician, she would get a second opinion and waive the charge. I wish they would've checked their people and given me reputable people.
I'm at their mercy. When they signed somebody, I had to wait after 24 hours. And then I called within four hours to set an appointment, so I got to wait normally four hours for an appointment. If they don't call, then I got to call in. It's the first time I called to cancel the appointment and set the other one up, so I got another day added on. I'd always get the number and I'd call them direct and tell them it's on their screen and I'd give them the work order number. I'd ask them when they can get out or put me on the list as quick as possible, but I tried to get it moved. It was ridiculous.
In addition, I told them I got older air conditioners. They got R22. I asked them when I took the contract on this house what they would do when it goes out and they don't have R22. She said that's when they gotta upgrade it. They told me they could change over because it would hold the pressure, hopefully. I said that the unit is getting older and they gotta spend money for the changeover to our R-410A and it's been $15-$1600 just put a new unit in. She said that they will decide on that at that time. But right now, they only pay $10 per pound and some of these companies charge $80, $90 a pound for Freon. And then some of them say gotta have a three pound minimum which should be against the law. I told them that if they put a pound in, they should charge me $160 for two pounds that I don't even use.
They sent someone else out and waived my deposit on the other one. So they made another work order. I called American Air and got hold of a girl. She's telling me, "They'll be out tomorrow or perhaps another day." I told her what the front guy said was wrong with it. I told her that the AC is in the attic, it lays on its side, there's a board saw, we can lay it down and pull them out. She said she was gonna try to work with them. It's a really awkward system when the tech got the air condition and filter and I know they changed it. I shouldn't be held accountable for any dirt that was accumulated for 20 years.

I had an AC problem where my roof was leaking, and so I had somebody come and check it out. Navigating through the AHS website was pretty rough. It doesn’t take you to where you need to go to find the answer. It basically just tells you, “We’re not available right now. So, you need to call this number.” Then you call that number and they give you another runaround.
It took two days for a tech to come and when he came, it was horrible. They made an appointment for 9 AM and I took the day off not to go to work to get this resolved. The guy didn’t show up until close to 9 PM just to tell us, “We don’t do anything like this because there’s sheetrock involved. So, you need to call somebody else tomorrow.” So, a 12-hour day was wasted. A different guy would come back two days later and fix the problem. The leak is done but the sheetrock hasn’t been fixed yet. The contractor said I need to get with American Home Shield for them to figure out if they wanna send somebody or not, but based on how long it's been, it's more likely that they’re not gonna try to cover it. I first had Affordable Comfort and Construction come out in the middle of April. They checked everything and said everything was fine with the AC. At first it was blowing fine. It was good enough to get by. But that one week where I had called before the AC went completely out, I had family over and it was too hot. The contractor came out on a Friday to look at it but they said they had to order a part. They couldn’t get it so they had to come back on Monday to fix it. So I had to wait the whole weekend.
When they came on Monday, they found something else wrong so I had to wait another day. On Tuesday, they came out for something and found out it was something else. So then it was another day. They came out on Wednesday to replace the air compressor and fixed whatever else. Finally, it was blowing and then they left. It took forever and luckily, I bought a wall air conditioner. I should’ve never had to do that in the first place but it was a good thing I did.
Also, they had asked if I left my credit card information so I could pay for whatever it is they needed to bill me. I wasn’t there that time so they were gonna call me. Somebody called me and I gave them my card information but they never ran my card. Even when I tried to get a hold of them in their office, nobody answered the phone.
I called American Home Shield to make a complaint about the contractor and American Home Shield called them. They said I had no invoice and that everything was prepaid. So I was like, “Okay. Well, who is this person that got my information?” So I had to cancel that card and order a new one. Affordable Comfort and Construction was horrible. Maybe they’re the cheapest people American Home Shield can pay for contracting but AHS needs a different contractor or maybe another one. Nonetheless, American Home Shield was great. We were having problems where the pool was gurgling and it was making really loud noises coming from the jets. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. The website’s easy to navigate, although it would be a little better if I could give more details versus just choosing from a checkbox. I filed the claim at night and I received a notification immediately, who I have been assigned to. The contractor, Aqua-Brite, called me the next day and they had a technician out a day later, who looked it over.
He had to make a recommendation and get approval from American Home Shield and it took about another four days after that to get the approval and get it scheduled to come out. The pool was not working properly for about six days. And after the tech fixed it, I had to call and had him come back out because he had to get approval to do more work because American Home Shield would not give them the approval to do it the first time. Everything that he did is working very well.
Nevertheless, it would be nice if American Home Shield can select vendors who are closer. The tech had to drive each time close to an hour and a half to get to our house which made it difficult to get things scheduled. There are pool people all over the place and it’s not like it’s a rare thing. They could have relationships with a lot of different companies. My recommendation is to have more relationships with companies versus having one person that’s an hour or two hours away. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield.
