Our heater was not working and it was making a noise. So, my wife made my claim over the phone. She said that the contractor American Home Shield sent was great, and he took care of the problem. I had also made a claim for an air conditioner before and that went great too. I have been with them for four years and I like the feeling that I have protection on the major items in my house. It gives me a peace of mind.
Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have a great week.

The broiler was broken and I submitted a claim for it over the phone. It was very quick and efficient. The AHS rep was great and I was told to expect a contractor out between noon and 4:00. The guy from Sears came out and he was very prompt. He fixed it right away and left. Everything is good. I've had American Home Shield for a few years and it's wonderful. I'd tell my friends and family to get it.

Aloha Pacific came out for a pump that needed to be replaced. The contractor was diligent in being here. We've used them before with the two claims that we've put in with AHS, and he's very good. The quality of work appears to be excellent. I've been a loyal AHS customer for years and I'm gonna continue to do so. The service is excellent. The people are wonderful.

When All Hours Emergency Plumber came out a couple of days after I submitted the claim to Home Shield, the main leak was in the faucet. It was really leaking around that so that's what the tech and I both thought was the problem. When that was replaced, it wasn't leaking up there by the faucet at all. But then, I washed some clothes and I noticed another leak. I thought maybe it was no big deal. I washed some more clothes and it flooded in there. So, it's a big leak. I thought this leak had to come from the faucet but apparently, it was just starting out and you couldn't see it that well until it's just gushing through. They're coming back for a re-call. The tech was great, very professional, and efficient. He knew what he was doing and he showed me what he was doing. But I'm not real happy with the people who came out for the air conditioning. I just hope I don't get them again. Other than that, I feel pretty good about Home Shield.

When I signed up with AHS, I specifically told them that it was a three-family home. They quoted me a certain price, but when I had someone come out, that technician reported back to AHS. He said that it was a three-family home and AHS wanted to cut my services. I said that they need to check their tapes because I clearly said that it was a three-family home and that whatever price they quoted me was what I was gonna continue to pay. Also, you can’t really understand their customer service reps. They have people in other countries doing it and there's a communication barrier. However, one of them was good. She did everything over the phone and was very cordial.
As soon as I submitted my heating claim, I contacted Liberty because my tenant didn’t have heat. I asked when they could come out and they were able to come out the next day. I also told them to have the tech call me 30 minutes before he comes. But he didn't. The tenant said the tech was okay. He checked out the heater and found out that the issue was a motor. I also called the Liberty people to make sure that the tech was out there. They said that the guy was there, but had to run out to get a piece and that everything would be all right.

I have a problem with a microwave. The contractor came and said that they would give me a new one. I waited. After 9 to 10 days, I called. They said I had to call the appliance office then go online and identify what I wanted to buy. I did it. After a few more days, I called. They said no order was placed. So, they placed the order today after almost 20 days. If I didn’t call, I could have waited for a long time.
I've had AHS for about 10 years and their contractors have been okay. AHS calls them and they come. So, I have no complaints. They have improved on communication too. When you call, it doesn’t take a long time. But this time, I’m waiting. It takes a long time to reach the appliance office. It can take 40 minutes. I called three times and I couldn’t reach them. The lady helped me to reach them. They need to fix that department to make sure that when customers call, they can find someone and talk to somebody.
Good Morning James,

I used American Home Shield because of their reviews and the promise of local service people. However, when I placed a service call on my washer, the call was assigned to a company in Pittsboro and was told I would have to wait a week until they came "to this area." My husband is disabled and I have daily loads of sheets, towels, and bedding so this was unacceptable. I called and requested a local company and was told AHS did not have any service techs in Durham (pop. 274,000) and Pittsboro (pop 4300) was the closest. I will not be renewing my contract.
We do apologize for any inconvenience pertaining to the washer and the delay in service. We would love to resolve this issue for you. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

It’s been over a year since I got my American Home Shield policy. They sent somebody from Sears out the next day after I called about my washer, and that was good. My washer was making a really loud noise when it was spinning. The arm was broken. The Sears guy diagnosed the washer, sent in a report to American Home Shield, and that was pretty much it. It was an $800 fix so I was given a brand new machine. It was a lengthy process. We were without a machine for almost two weeks. They had to order it, set it up for someone to ship it, and have it installed. But everything else was great once I got it. I have a really nice washer so I was pretty happy.
However, it wasn’t a perfect experience with AHS. I tried to turn in my water heater and they wouldn’t cover that ’cause it was leaking and they said they don’t cover leaking water heaters. This time I did it through their online process. Now, I’m thinking you have to pay your deductible upfront. I put in a credit card for that online when I did the service request, but they ended up charging my debit card which they have on file because that’s how they take out my monthly premium for them. They charged the $125 on my debit card and then it overdrew me. I was not happy about that.
I called customer service the next day when I found about that. It was a little weird too. The rep was like, “We have no record of what you did online.” He almost acted like that was a separate entity that they were unable to get in to that database to see exactly what credit card that I had put in. They wouldn’t do anything for me, so I had to go to my bank and fight that out but that ended up being a simple process because I don’t typically ever overdraw my account. I was really frustrated about that. They give you a space to put all of your information but didn’t use it. It defaulted somehow to my debit card and that makes no sense. But other than the little credit card deal, it was been pretty smooth.

I put in a claim for a repair of a leak in our home. Plumb Genius had to take out the drywall inside the home so they had to repair the drywall. They said it's completed. But I wish it was a little bit closer to the rest of the home as far as the finish of it. It's a little more of a rough finish than the rest of the walls. I know that the part that comes with the plan is that they get it back to a rough finish and I don't know if there's a way for me to pay extra to get it flattened back out. Still, the biggest thing that I like about the warranty is the coverage part of it when I have last-minute expenses. Why spend an arm and a leg and you're not biting nails hoping things would get better? I just get somebody on it and get it done.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and providing feedback concerning your drywall. We do apologize the issue was not handled fully and will take into consideration this matter. AHS has done pretty good at fixing our problems, for the most part. I submit claims over the phone and their service is good. But we've had a couple of things that have been a pain. We had to have more than one vendor come out a couple of times to take care of the same problem because it couldn't be resolved with the first provider and American Home Shield. But I've never had to have more than two guys come out to resolve the problem on any of these issues.
It took a week to get a toilet replaced but other than that, that was fine. It got resolved and it's a good thing I had more than one toilet. Home Shield shouldn't fool around with stuff to begin with because they're getting two vendors involved. I'm only giving them $100 bill when they send somebody out. The first contractor was perfectly capable of fixing the problem but they didn't wanna go ahead and let them finish the job. Instead, they brought somebody else in and they ended up paying more money than they would have if they just let the first guy fix it. It was resolved the same way the first guy was gonna resolve it. It just took a week to have another guy come out.
One time, I had a problem with my furnace. It wasn't doing like it should. A guy came out, put three pounds refrigerant into the heat pump, and it's been working just fine ever since. That was no issue at all. I've been happy with American Home Shield's service. It's been prompt. Right now, I'm in the middle of another deal. We have a JennAir cooktop in our house and it's an old one. It was working fine until about a month ago. The exhaust fan stopped working. I called them and they sent a guy out from Sears. They couldn't find any replacement parts. I got a call back from American Home Shield and they offered me an option of going with this KitchenAid model that they have. They don't make my unit anymore. They also gave me the option of taking 1,175 bucks and use that towards the purchase of anything I wanted plus installation.
Now, I'm trying to resolve that issue but I'm going down to look at some different models and stuff. They recommended one for me to get through them but I don't know if that's the one I want or not so I'm looking into that. But as far as I'm concerned, that's going well. I've been happy with what they've done so far and I think that's more than a reasonable offer for me in this situation because this cooktop is 46 years old.

I called Home Shield to submit a claim and then the contractor contacted me pretty quickly and set up a time. A guy came out and he said he needed to order a part. He came back a week later and brought the part. He put it in, and I have heat right then. I didn't use my heat for about a month and a half because no one was sitting upstairs. But when my son moved back in, I turned the heat on and it kept tripping the breaker. So the company came back out and said that it was a breaker problem, so I would need an electrician. The electrician came out and said that it was because the elements that were put in were too big. So now, the same company had come out three times. Finally, someone from Texas Best came out, and he confirmed that the elements were too big. He fixed it and it wasn’t tripping the breaker anymore. He was real good.

I have a tankless water heater and the water was getting cold. I shouldn’t have been having a problem but I did so I called AHS. The claims representatives have been good, polite, and knowledgeable. But what I did not like was the company that they used. It’s not anything with the home warranty, but I had to wait 5 days for service from Air Pro Master. I didn’t like that, but the water heater has been operating perfectly now. And Air Pro has fine, good people. I would use them again, but not if I have to wait so long for service. AHS should have faster service from the plumbing company. My sister is in real estate and every time we bought a home, she would buy me a gift for a year from American Family Home Services Warranty and I’ve been using them for years.

When I compared AHS to the others it seems like the actual things they would cover were more comprehensive and also the Realtor had some experiences with them and had good reports from people who had purchased home warranties from them in the past. I never had a home warranty before, so I thought it might be important to have actual references from other people and went for AHS
I had a clogged-up sink so I filed a claim with AHS and they gave me the name of the technician and an estimated time. The people from A-1 Haney notified me in advance when they were on their way and there were also texts sent about updates as well. He explained what was happening and what they would be doing that day to make the repair and answered the questions that I had. They completed the job in a timely manner. I haven’t had any problems or reoccurrence of the issue since they were here. They did what they were supposed to do, and I actually hired them to come over and install a garbage disposal, so I would recommend them.

I have AHS on two houses right now and their response time is great. I could go online to file a claim the process is so straightforward, which is a plus. And their monthly premiums are very competitive. I’ve researched a lot of companies and their rates were one of the lowest. So for cost savings, I went with them. Recently, I had an AC claim where they sent out Argo Service Contractor. They took care of it and they are top of the line. They were 100% professional and they're one of the best HVAC companies I’ve dealt with in a while. The technician knew what he was doing, was really thorough, and explained to me everything that was wrong. Then the girl at their office kept me updated on the status of it. She was also really nice and polite. As for their response time, they gave me a window and they were within the window. So all the way around, it was great.

AHS is horrible if you wanna get ahold of somebody. I waited more than an hour one time for a rep to be on the line and it was very frustrating. But I can give AHS a good review when it comes to submitting claims online. My microwave was losing power. I got online and had a quick claim submission. Initially they gave me a window of 24 hours before the contractor would come out, and before the contractor came he gave us 15 minutes window. The outlet on one side of the garage stopped working. I called Home Shield late Wednesday afternoon and I checked back Thursday morning. Mitchell Electric couldn’t get out here on Thursday and on Friday, unfortunately, we were gonna be out-of-town and not be back until Sunday. So, they were able to get out on Monday. They replaced some part or some cover and they were able to get it fixed. The guy did it fairly quick. He got out here early that morning and he was out of here within an hour. Everything is working good now. Thank goodness, we had Home Shield. It saved us money. I don't know how much it would have cost if we had to pay out-of-pocket for it.
I was satisfied with everything. It would have been great if the contractor would have been able to get out here on that Thursday since I'd put the ticket in on Wednesday. But the place is out of Corsicana and that’s what kinda confused me a little bit. Corsicana is about an hour from us. I had what I thought was a leaking pipe. It probably was just a drain that was not properly sealed and the tech from Neely Brothers didn’t do anything. He was great. He didn’t wanna do anything that he didn’t have to do. He sealed our drain and it’s taken care of now. In the shower, he removed the drain. It probably had corroded a little bit. And so, when the shower wasn’t draining, it was leaking through the ceiling. He sealed that up. It didn’t take him very long, but he didn’t wanna tear a hole in the wall just to find nothing. I initiated a call online through American Home Shield's website, and they sent out Neely like the next day. It was pretty quick overall. We had issues with our electrical outlets, doorbell, and bathroom fan. It took two days for someone to come out after submitting the claim. The first contractor was bad, and I would recommend American Home Shield not to use him anymore. He was so rude and nasty when I was explaining what we put in the order form. He was going around, went into my bathroom, and did something. And in trying to look at the fan, he broke the cover. Then he told me, “Oh, this cover is broken.” I said, “But it was there. I saw you trying to pry it open.” Then, he stormed out and left. He did not even tell me why he left.
The second one, on the other hand, was better. He came in, asked us what we listed, and then he proceeded to fix everything that we asked. With the one he could not fix, he said, “Listen. This is not covered. And the reason is because it’s outside the house,” and we understood that. He was nice. We have been with American Home Shield for a while. This has been the second experience we have had with their contractor. The very first one was very similar to the second one. Some of them are not good -- they do not know what they are doing, and they are just there.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We do apologize the initial vendor caused damage or was not able to assess the issue or fix it in its entirety. We can have the initial vendor removed from your usage and take into consideration of the issue at hand. We do not want our consumers to feel uncomfortable. I have AHS for 15 years now and previously, when I submitted a claim, it took a little more time for them to respond than usual. But recently, I submitted a claim for my hot water tank that was not working and they were a little more responsive. I put the claim in on a Saturday and it was surprising that they were able to receive it. Usually, nobody does anything on weekends. But right after filing the claim, they responded. At first, they couldn’t find my account information but then, they finally got that squared away. And by Monday morning, they sent somebody out from Discount Contractors.
The contractor did what they could do and the technician who came out was thorough. He explained to me that it was an element that was bad and said that the tank was kinda old. But he said he checked it over and that it looked fine other than the element was burned out in it. He replaced the element and within 40 minutes time, he checked everything over and got my hot water heater working.
Before this recent claim, the last time that we called AHS was from the date on the tank which was nine years ago. That was the original claim that we filed for the hot water tank, which was installed in ’09. At the time, our hot water tank fell. It cracked and leaked in the house. After we called AHS, it took them almost five days before they sent somebody out to replace the tank. I was also a little concerned because when the technician came out to install it, he didn’t install a tray. He just installed it the same way it was, but I was kinda expecting him to put a catch tray underneath it. Even the technician that came out recently stated the same thing. He also told me that if I ever have to replace the tank again, I should make sure that the tech will put a tray under. But I suggested that back in ’09 and the technician didn’t have one on the truck.
Other than that, the warranty would be even more effective if I was more like a person that don’t take care of his own stuff because I just replaced a lot of things that I could have called AHS for. For instance, my warranty covers my refrigerator but I’ve replaced a refrigerator before and I didn’t even attempt to call AHS and have somebody come out. I was not gonna let food spoil because a refrigerator was dead, then wait a day or two for somebody to show up and check it. The same thing happened with the washer where I just went and purchased one.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

Things have been fine since then and it has been hassle-free with AHS.

The furnace wasn’t coming on and there was a smell. I went through a person to submit my claim with AHS and she was very good. She gave me a claim number, told me the name of the company and their phone number, and that I could call to make the arrangement. The contractor was Piedmont Mechanical and since the service, the furnace has been operating perfectly. I was very satisfied with them.

Our dryer wasn’t running and our microwave interface wasn’t working. Mo Hamster Appliance Repair had to replace the board on the microwave and then they had to replace a belt on the dryer. It was all in one claim with American Home Shield. We've had AHS for eight years and we’ve used them several times. The claim submission is usually fast. You just call and they schedule it and then the repair people call you and take care of it. It takes a couple of days for somebody to come out. They had the part for the dryer with them, but they had to order the board for the microwave. But that only took a week. The service is really good and efficient.

When our oven got hot, it stayed on. When we turned it off, the lights would still be on. One of the circuit things in the back was bad. American Home Shield gave us Affordable Appliance Repair as our contractor. Their tech called me on a Tuesday and said he would be out Thursday afternoon. He was good and he had been here before. He had to check the unit to find out exactly what circuit was problematic and he had to order the piece on it. The company then came and fixed it. It's been some years now that I've been with American Home Shield and they're okay whenever you can get ahold of them. Sometimes the hold time is long and sometimes it isn't. I kinda wait till late at night to talk to them. Otherwise, it’s all right. They do a good job. When they confirm, they give you a number to call.

I called AHS because the tub of the washer leaked. It took a long time to talk to a live person but the repair person came out the very next day and recommended a new washing machine. They were very good. I called about the claim and they told me to go online to look up washers prior to just going to go and take the money that they offered me. American Home Shield's claims process was better than I expected. When you go through the warranty, you worry about whether the company coming out will do a good job or they are just some terrible company. But AHS has a feature on the website that shows you a couple of different contractors in the area. It said, “Here’s who we suggest, but here are two or three other options.” I was able to independently research that contractors they had suggested. We had a garbage disposal that went out and we got in contact with the contractor a day or two after filing the claim, which wasn’t long. They got out to me within two business days, but there was a weekend in between. I was happy though. They fixed it on hand, which was very helpful.

I contacted AHS by phone for someone to come and fix the refrigerator. When I first submitted the claim, it took about a week for Sears to come out which was a long time. But once they got there, they had to order the part. Then it took another couple of weeks. And when it got there, it was the wrong part. They ordered another part and that took another couple of weeks. When it came, it was still the wrong part. Then they said it would be another three months. I called American Home Shield and they got another serviceman to come out. He was from Shaw's Appliance in Hollister and he fixed it the next day. All in all, I like AHS and I'm very happy with them.

They had one company come out and they just tried to throw parts at it. I like the AHS app and feel fine using it. When I had a clogged toilet, the person they assigned to me respond or call me back in a timely fashion. I called AHS and asked them to cancel that request and assign it to another company that I’ve had at my house before. I was thankful for that. Once that was done, the contractor was at my house on the same day they were notified of the issue. Once you find somebody you like working with, I would prefer to have issues assigned to that person rather than getting somebody new. If we had a plumbing issue, I’d rather have that same company because I know that they’ve done a good job rather than getting somebody I don’t know anything about. I’m happy with AHS.

The heater capacitor was failing. When it turns on, it regulates the voltage going into the compressor and if it's failing, it causes the excess voltage to slam into the compressor. It makes a huge noise, which wakes you up. It’s almost like the sound of fireworks or lightning. The longer that goes on, the more damage happens to the compressor and that’s an expensive piece of property. You lose the compressor and you’re talking almost the price of a whole new heat pump. The technician that Home Shield sent replaced that part. Hopefully, that part will last six years. And I’m hoping that this will alleviate any problems in the future, which are expensive problems. The tech was very nice and extremely efficient. I got to watch him work and he was very good. He knew exactly what to do. He replaced the part very quickly and had me up and running in a matter of minutes and he was off on his way.
I've had Home Shield since I bought my first home here in Washington, which was in 2010. It’s like a warm blankie knowing that if anything goes wrong, it’ll get taken care of. And they don’t screw around. They bring in people that know what they're doing, which is another thing that I really like. Trying to find someone who you can trust is difficult. I want somebody that knows how they're doing and has a track record and Home Shield vetted all their people. I’ve never had a problem with a technician from them.

I submitted a claim to AHS because the one toilet in the master bath was leaking and a stopped up tub like a gallon of water. The ballcock, the thing that comes out with the ball on it, had rusted and broke off into the tank. I tried to fix it, but I couldn't. I thought I could, but then the leak started. The other toilet was just making loud noises and it ran constantly. My water bill went up to a few dollars in one month. I called American Home Shield and they set me up with a company. So the technician came out and he fixed them.
I also had somebody come out once for the washing machine, the air conditioner and the kitchen sink. The washing machine was not a good experience. I had to have another person come out later. The first guy that came out thought he fixed it but he didn't. He said it was too complicated. He was going through a book of instructions. But with the air conditioner unit, that guy was fantastic. The two guys that came out for the kitchen sink were fantastic as well. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.

I made a claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor called me that afternoon. I set the appointment for two days later so they were able to come out within 48 hours. Preferred Electrical Services, the contractor, has been out to my house three times. The most recent one was to fix an electrical outlet outside that wasn’t working. They replaced the outlet and then the other one that I thought was plastic that was on the same line. They made sure everything was working and they were fantastic. They were able to do everything on the same day. They’ve been out to replace the ceiling fan for me too.
I always end up with the same two guys that come out and they’re always good. They’re knowledgeable about what they’re doing and I like that they use layman’s terms. I understand scientific stuff, but when it comes to electricity, I don’t mess with it. So, I like someone who seems to understand what they need to do. They explain it and then they get to it, and it’s great. I’ve been with AHS ever since we moved into our house and it has been eight years. I don’t like the price increases that I keep going through but when I remember to use AHS, I like that the items would get fixed, except for when I called about my washing machine. All of a sudden, they had a new thing where washing machines and dryers weren’t included in my policy. I was unhappy about that and I was contemplating dumping them and finding someone new, but they’re the best out there. So, it is what it is.

I purchased a refrigerator Apr 9, 2015 and the compressor/dryer went out with a contamination on January 25, 2020. American Home Shield sent out a technician on February 4, 2020 for a diagnostics. The company (Liberty) came to repair but deemed the unit unrepairable. My wife noticed that American Home Shield had loaded another company (Sears) for a diagnostic and repair scheduled for February 12, 2020 between 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., but we didn’t any confirmation on the reason why a change. The technician did not meet the appointed time nor did he call. I called Sears to complain about the technician at 1:00 p.m. and a lack of customer service. The Sears Customer Service personnel stated they would contact the technician to determine he arrival time. I told customer service that he had missed his appointment and asked for a manager. They refused me the opportunity to discuss with a manager.
My wife and I called American Home Shield several times and had the phone hung up in our face. The technician called around 2:30 p.m. to state that he would arrive at 3:00 p.m. He stated that the compressor and dryer need to be replaced and that American Home Shield often sends technician out three time to an issue before resolving the issues. The Sears technician schedule a date of March 5, 2020 to install the compressor and a date two weeks later to install the dryer. He stated that he hopes the repairs work. I didn’t accept the date or repairs. The technician took the phone out of my hand to select the repairs and dates. He stated this is needed to make my case stronger against American Home Shield for some service or replacement. American Home Shield said they would replace $125 to purchase a new refrigerator and offered to send the $75 for service fee back.
American Home Shield has stated that they have done everything within their obligated contract to resolve the issue. I told them that I didn’t want Sears in my house because of the lack of customer service and the issue with the technician. They offered to start the process over but I stated I have a diagnostic from the authorized repair service of the product and they stated that we can’t take the diagnostic because it’s not a company on their listing. The company that I had to come run the diagnostic is a trained authorized company of the product. American Home Shield stated that they cannot be accountable for the subcontractors. This is the worst company that I have ever done business with and I was told by a friend that this is the norm of trying to get American Home Shield to actually do something. I have been out of a refrigerator since January 25, 2020. This company.

I have 3 properties covered with AHS and have used the service for years. I understand how things work and usually just wait for the process to work out. However this time things are just going too far. I first submitted a request on 11/23/19 for washer and dryer. The company that came out WAKE APPLIANCE REPAIR INC checked everything out and said both just needed to be reset which the tech did. Fast forward to 02/05/2020 when the tenants notified me the same problem was occurring and really never stopped. Things just got much worse. I contacted AHS the same day by chat, asked to not be assigned to the previous company. This time I was assigned 4 APPLIANCE REPAIR SERVICES L.L.C. Let me also add I paid another $80 fee because I was past the recall period even though it was the same issue.
The tech comes out and determines a part needed to be ordered. The part comes in and the washer still is not working. The tech tells my assistant that he "doesn't know what the issue is." Tech advised her to call AHS for the next steps. When I contact AHS I was told a part was ordered and would be coming in one week on 02/26/2020. I was shocked. Why would the tech call AHS and order a part when he told my assistant he couldn't fix it. He told her he didn't know what was wrong with the dryer and maybe Sears could look at it. I had my assistant call and ask what was going on. He left a voicemail explaining after leaving the failed appointment he looked things up and "maybe" the machine capacitor could be out. This has been an ongoing issue since November 2019. Why am I waiting on a "maybe" part that might fix my washer that was found by research after the tech thought it was another issue.
I have tried to communicate with AHS. No one is willing to listen. I keep getting told the part is ordered. The problem is the tech requested a part on a guess. Before ordering the first part he should have taken the time to do the research. He even asked my assistant after he installed the part if the machine had ever worked.... That is something he should have determined before ordering the first part for repair.
I looked up the information for the owner of 4 APPLIANCE REPAIR SERVICES L.L.C who was the person that came out Elvin Eaton and I found nothing that says he is licensed in North-Carolina to perform work on appliances which is required by state law. I'm very concerned about everything and this explained why the tech didn't know what he was doing. I tried to get a Supervisor callback today and chat representative Tiffany ** refused saying chat wasn't allowed this option which I know to be untrue. Please someone look into this. My tenants have been without a washer for a very long time.
Oh No! We do apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. We understand that the washer and dryer failure can be a problem. We would love to speak with you to come to a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting further.

My most recent claim was with the microwave not working properly and I filed it on the website. It is very user-friendly and it tells what to expect. And sure was, as soon as the claim was submitted, I got an email letting me know that it was submitted and that I will be contacted within 24 hours by the contractor. Then, I got a call the next morning from Wright Appliance Service & Repair and they have good customer service with them. When they initially called me, first, they confirmed what the appliance was, the model, and the location of it, and then they also looked at my availability and what would be the task before they send out a contractor. So, that was good and very professional. I told them what day worked best for me and time, then they called me later and said they have someone at that date and that time.
Before the contractor showed up, I was called up in that morning to reconfirm that the appointment was still good for the afternoon that I picked and it was. I asked them to call me when he was on his way so that way I could put the dog away. They did and it came through. The contractor also provided very good service and it was very quiet. He said, "Point me where the location of the microwave was," and, "We need to test it, right? So, you can get a glass of water for me." He did not interrupt me at all. I was very pleased with everything. It was great customer service and convenient.
So far, I've been with American Home Shield for 3 years in my current home but we also had them in Temple, Texas. When I called for the dryer issue, I told AHS that I had no intentions of paying the $75 deductible until they gave me back the 75 that they were returning to me because of all the problems we've had. AHS assured me that I didn't have to pay the $75 deductible anymore for the dryer claim and that they sent the gentleman from BRM Services, LLC to check my dryer. He did that and ordered parts. A week later, he came back and put those parts in. He didn’t clean up. But other than that, he did everything else right. My furnace stopped kicking out heat. The first time, Citywide was pretty efficient in regards to coming out. They attempted to come out the same day, but unfortunately, I was at work. So, they came out as soon as I was available and fixed the issue within 45 minutes. The tech said it was a motor that was causing the furnace to not produce the heat. A week later, I had the same issue. And unfortunately, that day, it was in the 20 degrees as well as snowing. I placed in a service request within American Home Shield. Once I noticed it, it was like 2:00 AM, so I understood that they couldn't call me back at that time. A couple of hours later, I attempted to call. I called them for two days straight and no one answered. I left voicemails. At that time, I was taking time off work hoping he'd call me back because the first time he was really efficient. So I'm assuming the next time, it'll be more efficient.
I placed that call Thursday morning. He didn't come out until Friday evening. He couldn't do anything at that time when he came out because he said it was after business hours. He didn't have the car. So he will come back the next morning, which he fixed it, but it was the time of getting a hold of him that was the big inconvenience for me because no one answered the phone, and I left several messages.
American Home Shield is efficient in trying to get someone out and responding immediately. Every time I place a claim, I think there should be more than one contractor available so if one is not available, two should be available. They should give me options instead of whatever they preselected. Overall, I'm satisfied. I just feel like it should be a little bit more in regards to the contractors.

I've probably given American Home Shield 40 customers. I love it. You can’t beat the amount. I pay the $57.59 every month, but it’s gonna pay itself back because if my air conditioner or hot water heater goes out, that’s gonna be expensive. I’d rather pay the 57.59 now than get someone to fix it because they’re gonna either fix it or replace it. I just pay the service fee of $100 when the vendors come out, and it’s worth it to me.
I had a smell of sulfur in my water and the guy said it was the iodizer. He put a new iodizer on and got that sulfur smell out. It’s working great now. There was a great interaction too, but the first time he came, I had a card on the door saying, “Hartman was here." My house is big and a lot of people knock instead of ring the doorbell. I’ve been waiting the whole time and I didn't hear him come. So, I had to call them back and say I'm not gonna pay the $100 revisit fee. He came back, no problem. My toilet was leaking and I wasn’t sure where or why. I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent a plumber out. He said my toilet was leaking around the bottom at the seal. He said it was an easy fix and he worked on it quite a while. I could hear him sanding and I thought that was really weird. He came out and said that all was fixed and that there was probably some sewer water that came up when the toilet flushed. I decided to go and mop it but then the plumber took off and didn't have me sign for anything. I looked at the floor and saw that he scratched my marble floor. He must’ve pulled the toilet across the floor when he took it off so it scratched. He also sprayed something gray on top of the floor.
I called American Home Shield right away and they said they would call the company and see what they have to say. The call to the contracting company went into voicemail, nobody answered the phone. AHS said they would leave a message and nothing happened. I called AHS again the next day and they said they would call the contractor again. They talked to somebody named Daryl who then said they would call me and talk to the technician. Nobody has ever called me back.
I'd like somebody to fix my floor. American Home Shield told me that they’ll send the technician out to fix it. So far, I'm very dissatisfied with the service as nothing is happening. AHS has to have the company do something. This isn't a contractor that should be going out to people's homes if that’s the kind of service that they’re gonna give.

I had a minor leak at my kitchen faucet and then I had a leak under my kitchen sink. My kitchen sink was stopped up which turned out to be the garbage disposal problem. I discovered this about 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. I went on online and put in the information hoping that I would get a call first thing Monday morning. On Sunday morning at about 7 o’clock, I got a call and the gentleman from Hardy Plumbing explained who he was. I told him I wasn’t expecting to hear from somebody that early. He said he likes to come in on Sunday mornings before church and make his calls and get everything set up for Monday. He told me he would be here at 7:30 on Monday morning. I couldn’t expect anything any sooner.
About 5 after 7:00 on Monday morning, he called and he said he lives about 5 to 7 minutes away, so if I was ready, they would come on. He was here 10 to 12 minutes after and he had completed everything and was leaving about 25 minutes till 8:00, 5 minutes after my appointment time. This is the first time I’ve used Home Shield and I’m highly satisfied right now.

Everything went perfect from contacting American Home Shield and getting them to schedule the tech from Appliance Guy, to him showing up and doing the work, and then cleaning up afterwards. He took everything apart while I was sitting there doing stuff around the house. He did a great job, and the appliance works. I definitely recommend to keep him on the roster. Every time I have used American Home Shield, it has always been great. I haven’t had anything that has been denied yet. I’ve done claims submission online and it is very easy. They stayed as far as warranty and what is covered and out of pocket expenses. Everything has been well. However, when I had a leak in one of the pipes, they paid for everything except the repair of the actual finishing of the sheetrock afterwards. They may want to see if they can add that to a coverage package.

AHS sent out A P2 Tech Services to service an appliance and they were great people. They fixed everything and they were on time. Usually the techs were not and a couple of companies that we dealt with in the past were terrible. The last one didn’t fix anything and we had to submit three different work orders to get them to come back out again. It was just nonsense. Other than that, the out-of-pocket cost is great with AHS because we don’t have to buy a new dishwasher or any kind of that stuff.

Choice Home Warranty told me that I was gonna get disappointed with American Home Shield because their service money is very high and the people who work for them are not very professional. But I keep AHS because I’ve been with them for so many years and I like their service. Plus, I have a big house and having AHS gives me security. If something happens, thank God I have them and I’m happy about that. However, their service fee is very expensive and it would be better if that could be a little bit lower. Also, sometimes the people who work them are not good. I had two bad experiences but then, I realized that they are only for emergencies. So, I said AHS was still good and I wanted to keep them.
Recently, I had a plumbing issue and they sent out a tech from Jed Mechanical. He said the noise was nothing to be worried about and he just changed the wire, the plastic inside my toilet where the water was leaking, because after a while these plastics are shrinking. It took 10 to 15 minutes for him to do everything, then he said that the plumbing was moving and he couldn't do anything else for it. But I have guests coming every other week and when they go to that bathroom, the noise is really loud and that makes me worry what’s going on.
I also noticed that most of these people working for AHS are so lazy. I had an electrician come to my house three times but he didn’t wanna do anything. First, he said he didn't have a ladder and he had to come back. Then, he replaced a light that was covered by American Home Shield but he said nobody told him that he had to replace the other one. But I told the lady at their front desk that I sent a picture and asked them to estimate the work for me. I also said that I was gonna pay for that out of pocket. Then, the tech said that he would do it, but he left because he thought their office didn't tell us the right amount.
At the end, I had to call another electrician. But when I asked one of AHS' people to give me three more electricians that work with them, they said they charge $500 for a tech to go and diagnose the problem. Then I called the third person and they charged $350 for diagnosis. I said forget it, then I called Alexandria Lighting. I asked their rep if they knew any electrician and he said he was gonna email me a couple of them. I called one of them and the guy said he had to come inside and estimate for me. I agreed, then he came and did everything. And he charged me $300 for that light, so I took his offer.
Then I called AHS and said that I would be getting another electrician. They said that was okay and that I could do cash out from them. But I needed to show the proof that I replaced it. So the customer service from AHS was so good. They were so nice and they tried to help, but the price was too high. The customer cannot afford their fees. They also added up things that didn’t work then I ended up finding another electrician. Other than that, I had a tech out for the garage door and he was such a good person. I keep telling everyone about him. He said the garage door was old and I needed to replace it. I told him not to fix it and just forget it but he said he was gonna fix it as that was his job. So, he did. I was lucky and I thank God I didn’t need to replace anything.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

My experience with AHS is good, so far. I would submit the request online and then somebody from the local company would give me a call, like the Drain GO Company or a plumbing company, whoever it is we’re needing. For my recent claim, I had a guy come out and tell me the problem. He thought he had to go in through the back wall of our shower and cut a hole, but ended up, it wasn’t. I got somebody else to look at it, and it ended up not needing that. It was just needing a couple of extra things like a new shower head and some gaskets. And so, luckily, the other guy came back out and they were able to get it fixed. They were timely with getting everything handled. So, that was nice.

We had water on our drywall on the ceiling of my family room and there was a spot about the size of a silver dollar. We put in a claim with AHS online and their website was pretty good. Then in three days, the tech came out. He put a hole in the ceiling, looked at it, and instantly determined it was my shower leaking. So, we sealed the shower and did everything. But we continued to get water. We put a bowl under it and continued to get water from the hole. So my husband turned the water off to the toilet in my master bedroom and we completely quit using it. Four days later, we were still getting water. So this morning, I put in a second claim and within two hours, the guy came out. He discovered there was a pin-size hole in the pipe going through the ceiling, so he repaired that. And I haven't showered yet, but I turned the water on back upstairs and so far, there's no more leaking.

The tech fixed it in one visit. But I had a rough time when I had an AC claim. The contractor for the AC in the area was not great. They came out several times, which was ridiculous. American Home Shield itself was all right. But they should have changed out that contractor.

I had three doors that needed to have something done and he didn’t fool around. He was here working. After I filed a claim it took him about a week to come out. When it came to changing the locks and a few other things I would have liked it to have happened sooner. But that’s okay. It’s all over and done with and the work he did was excellent. He tore it apart and put it back together right, and it works just fine. He went right to work and got his job done, and we’re very happy with him. It cost me $100 to do it and I probably could have had a guy come and do it for $100. So, American Home Shield didn’t help me that much. I had a clog that was in the sink, and American Home Shield had sent out Intercity Plumbing. They were in a hurry, and they said they needed to come back and they needed to modify this and so many different things. They didn’t do the job. When American Home Shield sent Plumbers Inc out, the tech did the job. He took the plug off and saw where the clog was, and he put the snake through there and he was on his way in 30 minutes.
I’ve had American Home Shield for years. I normally do my claims online. It’s really easy. It always seems to be every time we use it, the people that come out, most of the time, seem to always find a reason not to do the job. The first contractor they sent out for the sink said they came out of Palm Springs. Palm Springs is quite a distance away, and it was almost like they were trying to get back home before it got dark. They brought out this little snake and said, “Well, that’s as far as the snake can go.”
They didn’t really do the job that needed to be done to unclog the line. And then they said, “Well, you got an L-shape, and we need to put in a different type of fitting.” And then they said, “Oh, you got some water down there in the thing, and we don’t wanna go down there now.” They came up with every excuse instead of doing the job the way it was supposed to have been done. AHS didn’t just take the contractor’s word. They sent for a second opinion with no charge if the person that came out had seen that that wasn’t what the first contractor said. It was pretty professional the way that was done.

A lot of people got bad taste in their mouth about the home warranty places, but not me. AHS saved me money. They’ve been good to me. We’ve had to use them maybe three times for small and smaller things and they covered it with no problem. I had them years ago with my ex-wife. We had an air conditioning unit that went out a long time ago. It took some pulling teeth, but they came through and covered it, and that was an expensive job. But so far, that’s why I’ve still been with them. They haven't done me wrong at all.
There was one guy that came one time that I wasn’t really impressed with, but he didn't end up doing the job. He came out and looked and he had referred somebody else. But most of the time, the contractors are great. The latest one, especially, was awesome. He got here when he said he was gonna be here. He called me back as soon as I called him. I have a weird schedule. I’m out on the road a lot, and I had to be here for him to do it. And he showed up exactly on time and was a really friendly, great guy. He was in and out of here in 20 minutes. In fact, we had more conversation than he probably did having to work because we ended up talking about music and stuff. So, he’s cool.

I used American Home Shield in Western Massachusetts before I moved down here to South Carolina. I was in a relatively rural area and I couldn't get the electricians out. And I initially let my American Home Shield warranty expire. Then, the policy I’ve had down here came with the house and the real estate agent made the sellers offer it as part of the sale. I reluctantly took it for a year but it was free. And the stuff we’ve had are relatively minor up to the point of this plumbing issue that we recently had. It was a major clog in the sink and A-American Plumbing came out. They are great and they’ve been over here before for a number of issues.
The guy who was here was the son of the owner and we discussed putting in a new faucet in the sink because I had been unable to tighten the gasket. He said he was not gonna do it because he could do all he could then if you break the faucet, you’ll have to buy it. So, he said he was gonna put the new faucet in for me. I’ve also been pleased with American Home Shield in terms of the timeliness of their response. Because we are right here in Charleston and it’s a relatively populated area, they can get the people to come out here quickly, which was not the case when we lived in a relatively rural part of New England.
Other than that, if you’re on city water, meaning you don't have a well or a septic tank, it’s not a bad deal to have American Home Shield. But if you're not, that's a different story because the well pump I replaced right before I sold my house in Massachusetts in 2018 wasn’t covered. And that was about a three-grand expense. Then, the septic tank that I had there was an elevated one with a secondary pump station, and none of that stuff was covered. And you could put riders on, but that would double the cost of the monthly premium.

The water pipe in the master bath broke and the American Home Shield rep was understanding. I called it in on a Thursday though and it was Monday before anyone got out. The contractor took care of it immediately. There was a leak in the supply line going into the tank so it filled the bathroom with about an inch of water. Fortunately, I was there when it happened and it was cleaned up immediately. Fans were brought in to dry it and we took care of the damage. I turned off the water and we were without a master bath or master toilet for the balance of those days. When we’ve called AHS out, the response has been the same day or next day. This was the first time that there was a delay. I didn’t like it and I was miffed but I’m smart enough to realize when a holiday is there, that’s what you gotta deal with. Cabot came out twice, both having to do with the problem with the heater, and they were great both times. The first time wound up being an electrical problem, while the second time was a mechanical problem in the heater itself. I saw very little of the tech who came out the first time. He quickly assessed the problem, had it fixed, and then he was gone. The second one who came out figured out what the problem was, and then he had to find and replace a part. First, he said it would take two or three days. It was very cold out and I said that my 90-year-old dad was coming to stay and this was not good. He then said, “Let me look and see if I can find one locally.” He did not promise anything, but he tried. So, he went to his truck for a bit and made calls. He came back and said that he found a place locally that had it. He went to get it and put it on, and the heater has worked ever since.
I like that I can go online and put in the problem. American Home Shield has always been good if I have put in a request for an order. I immediately get a response, and, within hours, I get a call from whatever technician they have contacted. So, I’ve been real pleased with them. There is no delay, and I’m not waiting around for people to call me back. It has been very efficient and it has worked very well. We bought it because we bought a new house, and we may go ahead and renew the warranty and keep it another year.

When I filed my claim, AHS's website was quick. I was told that I would hear from the contractor within 24 hours. They called and had the repair scheduled. They then showed up within the window they gave. The contractor was very easy to talk to, knowledgeable, prompt and quick. I was having a problem with my refrigerator, which was giving an error message, and he had it fixed. Part of the issue was the cooling unit itself had a lot of build-up around it. He removed all that build-up around it, which was what was creating the error message. Essentially, it was treating it like it was trying to overheat the cooling unit itself.
Overall, it was a great experience. It was very prompt and quick. It was the first time that I’ve had to do a claim and I'm very satisfied with the results. AHS is a great service. My dishwasher timer broke on 12/23/2019 and it is 2 months later still broken. Paid $75 service fee and contractor came out within the week to determine the problem. Contractor said they needed to order the part and would return when the part arrived. 4 weeks later after they said American Home Shield cancelled the order. Contractor ordered the part to be expedited and returned to install the part on 1/25/2020. Contractor told me another part broke and they would have to order another part.
On 2/20/2020 after not hearing from AHS they told me they could not reach the contractor and could not verify if the part had been shipped. AHS told me they would reach out to the contractor and follow up with me. I never received a call and on 2/24/2020 I had to settle for a $75 service fee refund because customer service could not authorize anything else. AHS supervisor would not disclose her managers name or a way to contact corporate office other than a address in Memphis. I never thought it would take this long and how could AHS partner with such a bad contractor. They stopped answering my phone calls and AHS could not provide any reimbursement. This is our first claim with AHS since moving into a flipped house. I have paid 2 years on monthly payments and this is how they value customers. I will be notifying our realtors and homeowner friends to stay clear of American Home Shield.
We do apologize for the delay in your service request. We know this issue can be very tedious. We would be more than happy to assist and speak with you to find a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further with this request.

After calling American Home Shield, a technician came to my home on January 29, 2020 in an attempt to repair my oven and refrigerator. I called the technician on January 30, 2020 to report that stove was not working and the oven made a bomb sound when I turned it on and off. The technician informed me he cleaned the burners on the stove and had ordered a part for the oven. I stated that, "You told me that you had repaired the stove by cleaning it." He replied that he had been working in this business for so long that he know what was wrong with the stove and oven without checking them. He told me not to use the stove and oven until he repairs them.
On February 6, 2020, I sent the technician a video of the sound that the refrigerator was making. He replied, "Hmmmmmm interesting. I will recheck it when I return with parts for oven. Is the unit still cooling?" I responded that I didn't check to see if the unit was cooling. He replied, "Ok, just let me know, Thanks." I did not respond. On February 20, 2020, I spoke with three representatives from AHS regarding an update on the status of my repairs. The first representative attempted to reach out to an associate in the parts department but was unable to reach anyone and left a voice message. He then transferred me to the second representative, whom he said would discuss the option of replacing both appliances.
The second representative immediately informed me that I should have not been transferred to her department to discuss a replacement. She then transferred me to the third representative who informed me that I had been approved for replacement of the oven and that someone from the purchasing department called me on February 3, 2020 to offer me the option of a new oven. I responded if someone called offering a new oven, I would have accepted that offer. I would like a new oven. The third representative stated that she would call me on February 21, 2020 between 8-9 am. Well, she never called.
On February 24, 2020, I spoke with two representative from AHS. The first representative in customer service informed me that I had been approved for the replacement of both appliances. She also apologized for any inconvenience that this has caused and for the representative that did not returned the call on Friday, February 21, 2020 as she had promised. She then transferred me to second representative. After explaining to that representative the reason for the call and my previous call to AHS, he informed me that customer service cannot see all the notes that he could see in purchasing department. He went on to say that I had not been approved for the replacement of my oven or refrigerator and they were waiting to hear from the parts department regarding the parts. He also stated that an attempt was made on February 20, 2020 to reach someone in the parts department and voice message was left with department.
I asked about a cash out for the appliances and he informed me that cash payment was not an option because the parts had been ordered and they are waiting for a return call from the Parts Department. At this point I am beyond frustrated and angry. I stated, the technician came out January 29, 2020. I have called several times for an update (before 2/20/20) and it is now February 24, 2020. Has anyone tried to call the parts department since 2/20/20? I stated that AHS does not have a problem taking my monthly payment nor did the technician have a problem of taking my payment before coming to my home. Put me on hold and call the parts department now.
After being placed on hold for about 2-3 minutes, the representative informed me that the parts department was waiting to see if I was going to accept the cash out payment. I replied that "You all are full of ..." and hung up the phone. This has been the worst experience ever!!!! Can a representative from the corporate office assist me? The lady without the use of a stove or oven and a refrigerator that makes loud noises late a night. Thanks.
I apologize for the inconvenience as I can certainly understand your frustration. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you in an effort to assist with resolving your issue. I look forward to connecting with you.

I switched to American Home Shield after having a bad experience with another home warranty company. Before signing the agreement I went over all the things I had a problem with before which included: (1) Poor service - took too long to get something repaired, (2) Kept repairing old appliances which should have been replaced, (3) When something broke or had to be replaced I ended up spending additional money for items not covered, (4) When I finally got fed up and wanted to cancel the contract it cost me to get out of it. I covered all of these things in detail with the customer service rep before I signed the agreement and I was assured they didn't operate like this and I would have no problems.
Here's what I went through with American Home Shield. (1) When my dryer broke which was approximately 30 years old the service technician came out and said the appliance was so old they couldn't get parts. They informed American Home Shield and instead of replacing the unit they went looking for parts. After 3 weeks with no dryer and several phone calls they finally got the part for it. (2) My heat pump was 31 years old and every year there was an issue. Last year I spent over $800 on it in addition to my monthly fee from American Home Shield because Freon isn't covered under their warranty. My air conditioner broke again this year and I was told I would have to pay over $1,200 in addition to my $100 service fee to get the air conditioner repaired.
When you sign up for American Home Shield you think you will pay the monthly service fee and you're covered but you aren't. You get stuck paying for all these items that aren't covered under the contract. I canceled the contract with American Home Shield and got a friend of mine who owns an air conditioning company to come out and look at the unit. He told me the unit was 31 years old and it was ridiculous to pay $1,200 for a unit that old that was leaking. American Home Shield should have replaced the unit but they didn't so rather than have problems every year I canceled them and replaced the unit myself.
I had a dishwasher that broke that needed to be replaced and because they only provide the basic replacement model I ended up having to upgrade the unit and pay over $200 to get it in a color that matched the rest of the appliances in my kitchen. I just wanted a black dishwasher but this was an upgrade. For the years I had American Home Shield it would have been better for me to have purchased all new appliances rather than pay them $600 a year plus service call fees and additional fees that aren't covered under their contract.
I specifically asked the customer service rep before signing the service agreement if I wanted to cancel my contract at any time would there be a penalty and they said no. Do yourself a favor and record your conversations if you are allowed to in your state as evidence because you will be told many lies by the customer service reps.

So, when it was time for me to finally buy a house, I said, “You know what, I’m doing them too.” I filed a claim for them to change locks, and ARCO came out to rekey my doors in less than 24 hours. All of the keys work fantastically.

They said that somebody from ABNation would contact me within 24 hours and somebody did. We set up the time for them to come out. The technician came with the motor, switched it up and boom, done. However, the tech that came out sometime last year wasn't quite as good as this last one, who was perfect. We've also had a dishwasher repair. We got a good response time and tech. The problem was fixed and we haven't had an issue with it since. We were very pleased with that.

The washer was making a lot of noise. They had to replace the bearings. The tech was very good. He took care of the problem and everything was fixed that day he came here. He didn’t have to wait for parts. The washer had been pretty good since then. But when I had my pool heater broken, AHS said the electric pool heater was not covered and I didn’t know I had an electric pool heater. We also had a claim when my daughter’s room light was broken and that took a month to get fixed. The first guy that showed up said he was gonna order the parts. Something was wrong with the lights and it blew out. It didn’t get fixed in two weeks. I figured the parts can’t take that long, so I called AHS back. The rep was trying to call the company they sent out and he wasn’t getting an answer back. So after not getting an answer back, they decided to send somebody else out. The new tech had to reorder the parts. So it took close to three and half weeks.

We've had five contractors out in 15 months, and they've all been good except for one time. He went out of town. We couldn't get a hold of them. But we got it resolved. It worked out. Overall, it hasn't been very big things for us, but it's nice to pay 75 bucks and get things done. Most of the time, I'm saving the time. But the last little thing we did, we came out ahead on that one. That was the sump pump and the sink went out as well. It was beyond my pay grade. I wouldn't have known how to do that. And then, it ended up being cost-effective. For us, it's about ease.

All the contractors that have come out have been great. It's been easy to file claims and get things taken care of. It's been a seamless experience. One time, I submitted a claim a little before 5:00 and thought to call just to see if maybe the plumber could come out the next day. I told him water was coming down and he wanted to make sure there wasn't any damage. He lived in my area, so he was able to come that evening and he said he could fix it.
He was very knowledgeable. I had a few questions, and he answered them. I didn't know how to turn off the water to the house and he showed me how to do that as well as where the leak was coming from. I hovered a little and made a comment about it. He's like, "I have no problem for you standing right there. If you have any questions, let me know." He was really professional. I would like to continue to use him if I have plumbing issues. If I could just keep being assigned to him, that would be wonderful. I really felt comfortable with him.

The tech from Central Ohio Home Maintenance was absolutely wonderful to work with. He explained everything that he was doing, so I had no questions. He gave me follow ups, too. He had to come back. He had to order a part because we were missing a part. For me he went above and beyond trying to find parts. I need to call him about the bathtub though but the sink is working. As a whole, American Home Shield has been helpful. They have explained things to me and although I'm still having a problem with the plumbing, they took care of it. They also did a good job on my claim for changing the keys. The person that handled the call was knowledgeable and helpful. They wanted to know what I needed at American Shield and they explained a lot of things. I told them that I had read the contract and they asked if I had any questions. The only thing I kept on thinking was whether I would have to pay for parts. But I realize now that I don’t have to pay for parts.
I was also told that within 24 to 48 hours, I would receive a call and with the locksmith, Keymaster Lock and Key, it was not even that long. I received the call on the same day, which was a Friday, and he said, “How about tomorrow?” So it was the very next day after I had called in to American Home Shield that he came out and rekeyed all of the locks. It was at 11 o’clock. I had had three telephone calls from him when he answered my request and then he called right before he came on Saturday morning too. It was just wonderful customer service. He’s really a people person too. He gave me his card, introduced himself and was professional. Then he had good skills as well. He had the work done within two hours. He was wonderful to work with. In fact, I asked him to put a deadlock on my garage door and he went out and bought the deadbolts for my door. He sent me a picture of it to see if it was the right color. I would recommend him.

My washer blew up and I was without one for three weeks but it was replaced. American Home Shield told me that I was due for $811 and that’s what I got. I sent a receipt back because I had to get a washer and a dryer, and they sent me a check. At the same time, one of my burners burned out on my stove. The first time the technician came, he didn’t look at the stove and said it needed to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and told them that nobody looked at it and I don’t think it needs to be replaced. So, the technician came back out and didn’t realize he hadn’t looked at it or that it was on the ticket. But they were nice and it was very well done.
I've had American Home Shield Since 1980 and I like having someone to call that’s gonna fix things. But a lot of times, I want certain companies. One time with American Home Shield, the guy that I wanted was busy and they sent me someone else. I took a picture of the part that he put because it came in a box, like he bought it on eBay. That was the only time I was ever unhappy. I said when I sent them the picture that I wanted the guys that normally come out to come back and check to make sure. That was when they said that that part would have made my warranty go away. AHS is great. They’ve got no surprise bills and they’re wonderful to work with. I had another bad experience with AHS where it took me forever to get an oven replaced but that fortunately was in the summer when I could cook on the grill outside. So, it wasn’t horrible-horrible.

We have not been able to use our pool heater for the last four months because it was in an error mode setting. We’re now in the process of selling our house, so we knew that it was important to get our pool heater fixed, but any pool stuff is expensive. So, we’re glad that we added that to the Home Shield. The dude came out right in the time window that he said he would come out and told us what was wrong with it. When he showed up on Tuesday, he already knew the problem because it was a common one. He said he had to order the part but he'd be back on Friday. On Thursday afternoon, he called and said he had the part. He asked if he could come and put the part in then instead of waiting ‘til Friday. That was exactly how Home Shield is supposed to work. It was awesome.
The guy was great and super knowledgeable. He seemed like a good guy and he came in a very clean vehicle, obvious that he was with the company. He had a company trailer too. He showed me how it worked, walked me through everything, showed me why the other one failed, and now my kids are already jumping in the hot tub. Home Shield was great, but the company that came, ABNation, was better than any of the ones we’ve ever dealt with and I’ve had other companies come over the years for Home Shield.

But I'm having problems on another claim right now and I'm pretty frustrated about it. I had two plumbing issues that I called in for, one of which was a leaky bathtub faucet and one was a sink. The guy who came out seemed good then he said he was gonna go get parts for the bath tub and come back. He said he'd call me but he never did. I eventually called and told him that it would be great if he could at least get the kitchen sink done, so he came back and fixed that. But until now, the tub is a steady stream which I'm sure is gonna affect my water bill.
I would call him and he'd say he'd check on the parts and let me know. But he never called me. So we're three weeks into it and they're being completely unprofessional. There's still no communication and they just dropped my claim. I finally called Home Shield and they reopened it. So at the moment, I have a claim with them again. But I haven't heard from the tech, though I'm not up to the 48 hours yet, so they better call today. Also, I asked AHS if I could have a different plumber, but their rep said no. AHS has given me good service. Whenever I call, AHS usually have someone that’s able to come out within a very short time, and the longest I had to wait was maybe a couple of days. The contractors that they use have all done a good job. I've had someone come out for my refrigerator a couple of times for the freezer part of it. Also, I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink and STL Plumbing was sent out. The plumber replaced the pipe under there that had the leak in it or the seal, and he fixed it up so I’ve had no more problems with it.

I filed claims for two things. The refrigerator was not cooling and then one of the settings on the dryer was not working properly. The contractors had a great demeanor and they got the job done. I have a monthly fee on top of $100 for each occurrence and for me and my husband, that's a little concerning. But as far as customer service is concerned, the vendors they have contracted in my area have been fine. Also, submitting a claim has been favorable.

The contractor, Affordable Appliance, came to the house to check my washer, dryer and my icebox. They said that ice maker was not covered so they did not fix it. There wasn't really anything wrong with it and I just needed to change the filter. So, I didn't have any concerns with anything. I have more concerns with American Home Shield than I did with them. I’ve been with AHS for 20 something years and I like them but they switched up the contract on me. A couple of years ago, my air conditioner broke and they covered it. After that, they went high on my copay and my payment. I used to pay $75 and now, I pay $102. I pay that monthly and I was told that I wasn't gonna have everything covered. So, it's not a good deal. I’m about to renew in March so, I'm hoping that my payment goes down and that I have full coverage on everything.
We do apologize for the rate increase. We do thank you for being a valued customer as well as the longevity, it is greatly appreciated. When renewing you are welcome to contact our Sales department to discuss the price rate and someone would be able to assist you. Do not hesitate to contact us directly if any questions or concerns. One year, I went through Thanksgiving with no stove. That was a disaster. I had about 30 people over for dinner and didn't have a stove to cook in. It has been a little nerve-racking at times. And this time, I'm still waiting for AHS to come and finish the repairs from the 14th. Initially, I had a problem with the washing machine. They asked me for all the information about the washing machine. But when the people came, they didn't have any type of parts even related to what could be the problem. They went back and set up another date when they'd return with the parts, and that was another process. We've had no washing for about three weeks now. I've had to go to the laundromat a lot.
Contractors usually call within a few days, but I usually call myself. After the last experience, I had to try to move things along, but they tell you you can't call out for yourself. This particular time, something went wrong. While the gentleman was here, my dishwasher also went out. I tried to pay the fee and have them look also at that while they were here, and they couldn't. I was sent to another contractor. I was a little upset about that. You got all these different people running in and out of your house when they couldn't give the claim to the same contractor that I have for my washer or dryer.
AHS should be a little more efficient when they ask you what is going on and troubleshoot. At least send contractors out with minor parts. They ask you for the model number, what type of machine and what's wrong with it. I myself could figure out what was wrong with it. I just didn't have the parts. The technicians basically know what you're telling them. So they should come at least with something to try to repair it with, instead of just coming, looking at it and then making me wait for another week or two. It's just such a long drawn-out process. Although in the long run, I was satisfied.
Hi Emma,

We had two things happen at the same week, the dishwasher and the washing machine, and American Home Shield sent two separate companies out, one of which was Coastal Appliance. One of the contractors called right away and then scheduled the repair on their next available day, which was two to three days after the initial call. On the dishwasher, they replaced some parts and thought that was going to fix it. And then, after they fixed it, I found out that there was a hole on the tub and that was where my leak was. So, they ended up having to replace the dishwasher. Everything has been corrected on both products.
The only thing that gets me, however, is that it seems like the prices keep going up. I just got my new service plan and it went up from last year. I wish there was a loyalty program. We have been a customer since '95 -- we’ve been through two houses with them. Other than that, I've suggested them to other people. We have been happy with American Home Shield, overall.

Something broke in the dishwasher and we had water all over our kitchen floor. I called AHS to submit a claim and their representative was wonderful. A guy from GE Appliances came out and looked at everything. He stopped the bleeding and said that he knew what we needed. He then ordered the part while he was in our kitchen and within a few days, the parts came in and he came back and fixed it in a timely fashion. Now, everything has been working like it's supposed to. American Home Shield has been consistently good about everything. I have them at two homes and have had no complaints, whatsoever.

I had an issue with my heater recently and I went online to submit a claim with AHS. I got service immediately and the contractor that came out was great. I'm also having that same company come do my air conditioning check for the early season. Aside from that, I called AHS because I'm up for renewal and I have some questions about the contract. I got put on hold and my experience was a total joke. I was showing them exactly in my contract where I have a question but they couldn't answer it. They couldn't find somebody who could answer it either. And it wasn't an issue with the people I was talking to as they just had a script and that was obvious. But that was really pathetic and terrible. And not understanding the contract including what AHS would cover is a big deal when you're spending 700.
Also, when they put me on hold, that returned me back to the general menu. So I started going through all four options again. So, that piece of it was really disappointing. Now, I don't know if I wanna renew with them because my question was very specific. It was how much they'll pay for replacements and things like that because in the contract, there's just a weird little statement there. But after going through options one, two, three and four, I realized it wasn't gonna work. So, I gave up. Another thing is, they keep jacking up their prices every year significantly, which is crazy. But besides that, my experiences with the contractors and the people that have come to the house over the years, as well as how fast AHS responds, were good.

It said somebody would contact me within 12 to 24 hours and they did it within one hour. The tech replaced where the leak was. He had to clean it up and he put some more glue on there. He even had to put a different pipe on it, but he fixed it with no problem. I looked yesterday and there was no leak at all. The pool company, Alchemist Pool Service, was amazing. At first, I was impressed at how quick AHS got going on my plumbing issue. Filing the claim was also very easy. They sent the plumber out and he seemed very knowledgeable and decent. But he's saying it's $25,000 for a leak that insurance won't cover because it's under the house. Now AHS is saying they don't cover either and I don't have $25,000. I had asked if I could go online and look at my policy, and they said no. They have to mail it to me which I thought was weird in 2020.
I asked them why it is $25,000. It's not like the whole below the house is blown up. My brother had his done and it was $10,000. So I don't know if it's the plumber. I've used AHS one time and it was handled well, so it was a good thing to pay monthly just in case. But the frustrating thing is we pay our monthly thing, we haven't really used the home warranty, and it's not even good. We're having our own plumber come today and see if this is kind of a little scam thing.

A year and a half ago, I decided I should get an AHS warranty again after having it in Vancouver for eight years. My Dremel tool in the bathroom stopped working and I went out to the electric box to see what was going on. When I switched the breaker for the bathroom, the power went out in the upstairs loft, the second bedroom and the office. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the power back on.
I submitted a claim to AHS and their tech from Travers Electric come out. It turned out that whoever put the breaker in hadn't screwed the screws in. So, the electrician came in and screwed all those screws in and now, my lights all work. With AHS, I can just email them and tell them what's going on. Then, I get texted or called to let me know that my work has been assigned and they give me the phone number of the contractor it is assigned to. It all works easy. AHS is awesome.

HVAC Repairs came, they fixed the issue, and I haven’t had a problem with it. I didn’t know I had to pay $100 for the service fee, but that’s the only thing that was kinda harsh. Some companies will come out free and tell you what's wrong. They need to make money somehow, but I'm just not a big fan of that $100. It’s a little bit expensive. I've heard that American Home Shield was the better one than the others, so we went with it. Initially, I didn’t know I had to have it 60 days. So, that kinda threw me off because I ended up paying for the service myself. It’d be nice to know that upfront. I guess they do that to protect themselves. I can see why they're probably doing that. I got a small company. So, that was probably fair enough because somebody can have something break and then they wanna call and get a warranty.

When I first called and told American Home Shield that my air conditioning unit was not working properly, AUS came out. The guy checked it and said there was nothing wrong with it. So he left and he wrote a report that he had checked both the heat and the air and that the unit was fine. The next couple of days, the unit was not working. We were having cold weather one day and hot the next day here in Austin. So I was having to use both heat and air during the time period that it wasn’t working. So I called them again. They came out. This time, the young man changed something, and he fixed something in it. He did some kinda repair work on it but the unit still did not work, so I had to call them a third time. And whatever he did that third time, he said he didn’t do anything. But it's been working fine ever since that third visit.
We've had American Home Shield here in Austin for about 10 to 15 years, and we had a house in Memphis that they also covered for us. My husband set this up before he passed away so that we’d have some coverage on our appliances, and they've always been responsive, which is good. Repair it or replace it, and they’ve pretty much done that.

Customer service is abysmal. Contractor did not contact me, so I checked my account to get the number to call them and contractor lied to AHS. No attempt was ever made to contact me, but contractor lied "unable to contact customer." They never tried. AHS used to reassign a service request to another contractor if there was an issue, but apparently now they don't? That is a horrible customer experience, especially after 22 minutes of the non-English-speaking offshored call center rep not understanding what I'm asking and wasting my time talking about unrelated things. Awful! I'm cancelling this home warranty plan. They used to be fine, but are really poor now. Bad contractors and bad customer service.

The initial service fee is high for having a contractor come out to our home. And sometimes when the contractor comes out, there's not much that can be done or what they end up finding out isn't covered under the warranty anyway. So then, I end up spending more than if I would've gotten the problem taken care of myself. I had a claim with my HVAC unit and that was a terrible experience, but it was with a contractor that they serviced with, not particularly with American Home Shield. But in a recent claim, Greenway Home took care of the garbage disposal and it all went perfectly. Overall, the contractors have been as good as any other contractor that I’ve hired on my own.

What Durango of Alabama was supposed to do is put in a water gauge. I asked them to show me the complete bill but they said they couldn’t. I called American Home Shield but they won’t tell me what the total price of everything that we’ve done. Durango did digging and charged $253 and $175 to put the water meter in. Installation was fine, but it was awful for $253.
I called Durango back and I said, “You mean you’re not gonna pay them for digging up the thing and you know that’s where they’re gonna have to put it?” They said that’s called “access to something”, like if something’s happened behind the wall. They are thinking what it is behind the wall but they’re not gonna pay for the demolition of whatever is a good wall to get to it. And I said, “How stupid is that?”
The utility company outsmarts Durango all the time. They know that Durango does not pay for modification so they write up everything and put mods on it. That way the customer would have to pay for it ‘cause they don’t modify, but then I would kinda agree with this because the guy showed me where he took out an old pipe and put in a new pipe. I would think modification went along with this.
This happened not long ago when CNS put in an air conditioning unit. The utility company said the air conditioning pad was modified, but we got the same pad that was down there for that air conditioning unit. This house was built in ’63. Electricity wasn’t modified and we were told all those lies. They got American Home Shield book them but they write for the things that they know American Home Shield won’t pay for. One of them is modification. They always put a modification on any kind of thing that they do at the homeowner’s house, so they know they’re gonna get the money from the homeowner.
CNS told us that American Home Shield said for us to give them a check for $2,000. We gave them a check for $2,000 but when I called American Home Shield, they said, “You did what?” I said, “The contractor said you all told me to give them $2,000.” I kept calling American Home Shield back. But I think CNS also sent them the $2,000 bill just like they charged us $2,000. AHS got double paid. I guess I was so excited that day because we had been without an air conditioned so when we were told that American Home Shield said, “Do this,” I said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
AHS told me I shouldn’t have done that. I said, “If the contractor who you sent out tells me that you all said that we have to pay them $2,000 because of the modification and pay it, were they lying? What was I supposed to do?” And I argued with them forever about trying to get our money back, but I gave up. Why can’t AHS tell us though what was the total bill? We paid them 63.99 for insurance for the month. We gave them $100 service charge. We paid the contractor an additional $450. What did you pay for?
I'm gonna file a complaint against AHS and the two contractors that’s been to our house. But I'm not really blaming the contractors who put the water gauge in. I just wanna know why AHS can’t tell us what the total bill was and where do you go where you can get a total price of what AHS pays and what we pay. As soon as I get done with them finally, I'm taking this to the Better Business Bureau and talk to them about what AHS is doing. We have been treated unfairly on both of these occasions. That $2,000 was just a total rip-off on our part. We should’ve gotten our money back on that. Overall, I'm very dissatisfied with AHS right now.

I have three homes with Home Shield. Their contractors fixed up pretty well. Most of the time, I don't have to have them back. However, it's horrible to submit claims over the phone and online is just as bad. You have to wait online for an eternity and you have to listen to the same music over and over again. Also, contract numbers aren't something that you typically have available. Home Shield should make it easier to be able to look up each contract, know what you want. Online has the basics, but you can make a selection that is you got a leak, but you don't know where it is. There's no way to actually say that online. And to get somebody out there, you have to pick something, and then they come out and it's the wrong person for the wrong job. If there was another choice in front of me that had better rating, I would pick them.

Started with American Home Shield when we bought the house in 2011. Garage Harmony came out and I thought they’d just showed up, put a new spring, and it's a one-time thing. But I guess our garage is not that simple. They had to custom-cut the spring so it took a couple extra days. But for it not being a nonstandard spring, they handled it really well. They communicated really well. They were constantly keeping us up to date on stuff. They did better than a lot of other folks that come out and work on other things.
Probably just more of a regional thing, but I’ve had issues with American Home Shield. Part of the reason why I have it still is because it provides some level of convenience if somebody needs to show up in one to three days. If I didn’t have American Home Shield and I’m just calling contractors, it takes them two weeks to show up. That doesn’t help me out.
But for pool equipment stuff, that’s just not the case. No pun intended, but the pool of vendors for pool work is very small. Even when it’s like, “You’ve got something scheduled and there’s supposed to be out there in a couple days,” they still may not show up for two weeks, three weeks, or months. That’s been frustrating. But at the same time, if I tried to contact these companies directly, it’s even longer.
But the thing that’s been frustrating with American Home Shield is I’ve had things misdiagnosed in terms of does it fit in the contract or not. Then they’ll send out the second contractor and the third contractor to verify that it was part of a system-covered thing. It’s frustrating because the first guy, he reported incorrectly, but they won’t accept that. It’s like I’m trying to cheat them. It’s original equipment, not home management equipment. But I guess maybe that’s just part of them making sure they’re not taken advantage of.
