American Home Shield is a good company to have. The contractors that they sent out when I submitted a claim for my air conditioner were very professional. There was a leak and since the repair, everything has been good.

My AC went out and the contractor that American Home Shield sent was forcing me to get my Freon with them when I don't need the it from them. I just need them to fix it. I couldn't get them to fix what I initially paid for them to come out. I paid the $100 deductible for them to come out and tell me what was wrong with it and fix it. But they're not gonna fix it until I give them an additional $600. That's a little bit too much for me. I called them again today and they told me that it would be three to five days before they can order the part. So now, I have to wait an additional week and then the soonest they can come out will probably be next week. This is my first time to use American Home Shield and I don't like the contractor.

Our garage door wasn’t working. I submitted a claim with AHS and the contractor that they assigned to me was wonderful. When he came out, he was right on the job, efficient, and very respectful to me. He also seemed to know exactly what he was doing and explained things to me. Initially, he thought it was the capacitor so he ordered one and installed it. But it didn’t take care of the problem so he said, we needed a new garage door opener. He happened to have one with him at the time so he installed it. I have my garage door working again and I’m happy. Also, there was a gentleman that called to set up the appointment and he was as kind to me on the phone. I had an interaction with him three times and it all went very well
I have children who have American Home Shield, too and they’re very pleased with it. They’re the ones that got me signed up for it and it was wonderful to me because I lost my husband back in March and I had to relocate. Usually, he would take care of all those kind of issues and I felt like AHS dealt with me very well. Everyone was helpful and kind. And I would recommend them because I had a positive experience. In fact, I’ve already told people about them.
Good afternoon Kennen,
It was a pleasure to read your feedback regarding your overall experience with American Home Shield. Also,we are glad to hear that the garage door was repaired. I hope that you continue to enjoy us as your home warranty provider.

I called AHS over the phone when my AC stopped working. I live in Arizona and if I don’t have AC, then it’s a big problem since it's very, very hot. The interaction with their rep was all right. The contractor did okay and my AC has been okay since the repair.

My washing machine broke. It was making an ungodly noise and it wasn’t spinning. I submitted a claim for repair with American Home Shield online. But the contractor that they recommended couldn’t get to me for a week. I asked AHS if they had Metro Appliance Services on the list of their contractors. Then I did my work order to Metro because they're fantastic. I’ve used them for years and I wouldn’t call anybody else to do the repair on my appliances. They’re topnotch and I trust them. Their technicians are nice and friendly, and they're always on time and very reasonable. Everything has been operating perfectly since the repair.

I’ve had a claims with American Home Shield for a washing machine and my air conditioning. My washing machine barrel was not balanced and it has been going on for a while. The technician said one thing and then he said he was going to order the part. And then I never got a call back. I got somebody else to come out and it was fixed. It's fine so far. I had a very bad experience with an air conditioning too. I've been dealing with it for the last four weeks. So, I’m not very happy right now.

We pay a certain amount every month to American Home Shield for our warranty, then we pay a certain fee when the contractor comes out to do the repair. We had multiple water leaks which started one month ago and my wife called AHS to file a claim, although I tend to do it online. The contractor was professional and he came out, but he had to go get some parts. We had to wait a couple of days, but he came back and he fixed the leaks and our shower, and we had hot water again.

The air conditioner wasn’t cooling and we submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. The contractor was out within a day or two and he was very prompt. He explained what he was there for and what he was going to do. And good thing it was just that the Freon level was low and he said to give him a call back if there was any problems within 60 days. It was very professional, timely and friendly.

In the past, we have used American Home Shield's contractor Badger Heating for heat and plumbing issues, and they have not been helpful. The last time their guy was here, he told us we needed a new furnace because this furnace wasn’t big enough for the house when it was originally built, and that was why we have two fireplaces in it. We also got a letter from AHS saying they wouldn’t replace it because it was the wrong size for the house. So then, on my own, I called another fellow who is used to hot water boilers. He came in, pulled it and within 15 minutes, said, “Well, in this case, what’s wrong with it is the circuit board is out.” And he replaced the circuit board and it works fine.
I was not happy. AHS called me back later on and said they could use a different plumber. They also promised me that they wouldn’t use Badger Heating anymore. So this last time when the toilet had a leak, a different plumber came in and he did an excellent job. He was from Powell Plumbing and I would want them back again anytime. He was careful and was very considerate of my home that when he came in, he put little footies on his feet. He said another seal was so broken and it couldn’t be fixed. So, the toilet was replaced with a very nice Kohler one and it was very quick. I was very pleased with the service that I received as well as the speed with which I received it. Now, everything's great.

My home is with American Home Shield and I brought my parents' house in because I like the service. But the technicians are really jacking the company up and that's not good at all. Previously, something had burned out and the garage door wouldn't open. The technician American Home Shield sent was good and thorough. He fixed it and to the point. That was good. The problem we're having is with our appliance and the experience has been horrible.
A younger service guy came out and did whatever he needed to do on my microwave. There was a certain part they may have to order and he said they were gonna give us a follow-up call in a matter of a few days at the max. When I did a follow-up on the workman, I came to find out that he didn't even turn in the work order. We've spoken to American Home Shield two or three times. I've also called the contractor assigned to me, BH Appliances, but we haven't heard from them since. I got a text one day saying someone would be reaching out to me. But I haven't received anything else in over two weeks and it's been over a month now since the service guy came out. I'm about to switch to somebody else for home warranty now.

I had backed up water lines so I called American Home Shield. It was good with their staff and it was relatively easy. And I like the contractor who came out. The guy found that I didn't even have a problem. He must have put Drano down the drain and it cleared away. It was a $75 fix. Better sure than not, but I have concerns.
The main one was the people from the heating system where I live. It was in the winter and my heat had gone out. The only person they had on call never called me back. Three days later, I called them and it was an answering machine. Two more days and I hired my own people. I paid to have a new one installed because I don't trust American Home Shield to give me quality items. I don't want a ten cent replacement and I've really been thinking about cancelling them for that reason. In my area, for heating problems or conditioning problems, I might as well forget it. I will never go through Home Shield. Also, when Sears came out for my washer, they came out three times and charged me the copay twice because they couldn't get it right. But those are the only things that I'm really hesitant about. I got over it and the people on the phone are very courteous although sometimes it takes you a while to get through to somebody to talk to.

The dishwasher quit working and there was still water in the bottom. I went to American Home Shield online and typed in the claim. Then the guy called and told us when he would be here. Then he looked at it and he tried a couple of things. He told us that he would turn the part in to American Home Shield and if the part costs more than a certain amount then most likely they would send us a replacement instead. I got an email within a few days that stated they would be replacing the actual dishwasher and the options that I would have. And I just followed the instructions there. American Home Shield is fast and reliable, and they are easy to use. I have really, really enjoyed having the insurance and I've renewed it this month.

American Home Shield came with the purchase of the house. My dryer was making some erratic noise, a belt might have been loose and the freezer of my refrigerator was making some noise. So, I called American Home Shield, they picked up and they sent my claim to Speedy. it was a very easy experience. At that point, I didn’t know who’s gonna be doing it. They sent me a confirmation by email that I should be hearing from Speedy in 24 to 48 hours, and I did. The technician came out and tore my dryer apart, not completely, and the belt wasn’t loose. He said something may have been stuck there temporarily when it was going around, but it has been fine since. The issue was corrected.
And then on my refrigerator, he knew exactly that the issue was the fan motor and he fixed that too. In order to do that though, he had to take my ice maker out and put it back in. He had to come back out after that because the ice maker wasn’t making ice. So he came out and corrected that. The technician was very professional, very nice and prompt. Usually the warranties go out after a year or two and some people go to the extent of buying the extended warranty. But I would prefer going with American Home Shield because it’s a one-time service charge. You can choose what appliances or electrical you want covered and that makes up your premium. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

I told all my friends who were buying houses about getting an American Home Shield warranty and they have to.

American Home Shield had somebody out in two days for the claim on my oven. Dealing with both the customer service rep when I submitted the claim and the contractor were really good. The guy who came explained everything. It was something minor and it was done in two minutes. It was a new stove and I couldn’t get the oven to light. I just didn’t know how to do it but it was all worth it because my oven worked afterwards. Since then, it has been working perfectly fine.

The inside area of a microwave can't be fixed so the microwave had to be replaced. The claim submission with American Home Shield for it was easy and they really go about the process. I did it online and the contractor who came was great. The problem was after he came, it took them a while to get the order placed. Nonetheless, we have a new microwave now and it's about the same as what we had.

My oven is the kind that ignites and it’s not a regular outlet. It does not connect and the contractor from Amtec Services has been out several times before. He works by himself and usually, he is able to fix it but the last time he was out, it didn’t work. He said he had to order parts. American Home Shield has to approve the part and he said it would be five to seven days before I hear back from him. I haven’t heard anything yet and I've been without an oven for quite some time because it was out before he came and it's been seven days already. Up until now, AHS has been pretty good, but there's insensitivity when it comes to somebody’s kitchen because they don’t know how often your appliance is used. So, I'm dissatisfied.

I put in an AC claim with American Home Shield when the compressor outside went out. I did it over the phone and the wait time to get to them is an hour and something. And the first time, the phone disconnected after a 30 minute wait and no one asked for a number in case we were disconnected, which we did. And then, it was a bunch of going back and forth with the contractor, AUS, and them telling me one thing and not getting any results out of that. It was like they were trying to make money that wasn’t there. They were telling me there was a leak in the coil. And they had been here before and they had to come back and fix what they had fixed because it was all jacked up. They mentioned about replacing the coil and sent me a long spreadsheet with some thousand dollars that I had to pay out of my pocket.
AHS kept sending the same people out. I got a second opinion because they came out in January to fix something, then they had to come back and redo the whole thing. It wasn’t right. So I questioned the fact about the coil and come to find out it wasn’t a coil. But they wanted to charge me $1100 for the coil after the insurance company paid them. And then I called that guy that wouldn’t work on it anymore. So the contractors are the issue but AHS deals with those contractors. I finally paid out of my pocket to have somebody come out here and check it out and take care of things, and he told me that the outside was what needed to be fixed. And the issue still isn't fixed but I’m gonna get it fixed even if I pay out of pocket.
My refrigerator and my stove right now need to be repaired, and I’m headed to call them. The refrigerator's ice maker is not making ice. And the oven would sometimes come on, but it would shut off, then it would come back, then it’ll shut off. But I’m in discussions with my wife about trying to move to another homeowner’s insurance company. They hadn’t reached back out to do anything about it. They hadn’t tried to make it right. I’m not asking for anything free but they could absorb some of the hits that it’s been taking on me. The air conditioner wasn’t heating and wasn’t cooling like it’s supposed to, and they didn’t absorb any of that. I just all out paid the $75.

My AC was leaking Freon and American Home Shield sent E & A Mechanical Incorporated. After they came out, the AC worked for a week. We didn’t turn it on because it wasn’t that hot but when the heat wave came, it was the most horrible experience in the world. The guy came, identified the problem and adjusted something then he left. But again, it was the same problem. He then said it was a different problem and I was like, “Why wouldn’t you figure it out in the first two visits?” So he was nice guy but he had no clue.
Then on the last visit, he said that it was not working because the unit outside is brand new and the unit in the attic is old. They refused to fix it and said that the only way they could help me out was if I spent $4,200 to replace the entire unit in the attic. And that didn't make sense to me. The technician sent it to American Home Shield who then said that they cannot fix it. I asked American Home Shield to send me a second opinion but they said no based on the notes from the contractor. They said that I had to replace the whole unit as E & A Mechanical suggested.
I was frustrated with the whole situation because they took the opinion of somebody who came out three times to tell me, “We apologize that we messed up. It's $4,200.” They could have told me that from the beginning. Plus, they sent out the same guy all three times. I said, “Why don’t you send out another tech?” But they said it had to be the same guy. I told them that he didn't know what he was doing and they said sorry but that was they way they worked.
I bought the house that way and I asked American Home Shield what they wanted me to do. But they told me that they couldn't help me. I asked what would happen if I got somebody to fix it and they said it had to be one of their people. But their people were incompetent. And this was not the first time. They also sent out a plumber before who was horrible. But they sent out a second opinion then and they were able to take care of it quickly.
We suffered for about four days in the heat wave but American Home Shield was not gonna hold me hostage in the heat. Since they refused to fix it, I contacted someone else and they said, “What is this guy talking about? All he needs to replace is this, this and this.” The guy did it and it's been working ever since. But I came out of pocket about 500 bucks.
E & A Mechanical apologized for having to come out so many times and reimbursed me for the $100 that they charged me for the Freon because it was the technician's error. He was the one who didn’t fix that leak. That was an inconvenience and it was the worst experience. This is the third home that I've owned in my life and I've never dealt with such incompetence from both ends. At the end of this term, I am definitely gonna look into some other home warranty because that was unacceptable. American Home Shield should do what's right and reimburse me for my expenses.

I called American Home Shield and told them I need an appointment for a guy to come out and check my ice maker because it's not working. They said they would send one out so the next day, a guy called me and asked me if it was okay for him to come up today and I said it was fine. So, he came out and checked it. He said it needed a new motor and it would take a couple of days to be here. So he ordered it and then he came back and he put it in. He said to look in a couple of hours and then in a couple of hours, it still wasn’t working. So I called back and he thought it needed a wire connection. He put that in and so, it's working fine.
The guy was nice and polite. I was in a little bit of a rage with AHS the first time because when I put in to get my dryer fixed, the guy came out, went through the dryer and said it needed a new dial. They had to order it and he said he would call back but about a whole week went by and so, I called them back and according to him, they couldn't find one so they notified American Home and told them so they'll probably be calling me soon to give me a quote on replacing it. I waited another week and didn’t hear from anybody so I called them back. And they said it was being funneled but it takes a while for everything to go through. I faxed a copy of my new dryer and everything so they knew I had it.
About a week or two after that, I received a check in the mail for it. If they explained to me that it takes that long, I wouldn't have kept calling them. If they said that everything is being taken care of and that I’ll hear from them in six weeks, I would have been happy with that. Still, I'd recommend them and overall, the experience was good. When I called, they had somebody out here within two days.

Our garbage disposal was not working and submitting a claim for it online with American Home Shield was easy. They gave me one contractor info, and he came twice. The first time he came, he said the garbage disposal need not to be replaced and he just unscrewed something. So, a couple of days later, the same problem occurred and it was even worse. The garbage disposal started leaking when the first time, it was just not working. So, I had to call again and the same person came and replaced the garbage disposal. But he didn't give me any sort of a documentation that it has been replaced. And I had been getting him to get the product manual for my reference at least.
And then, again, a couple of days later, the new machine that he had replaced stopped working. And I had to call American Home Shield back and ask them for another contractor who then came and fixed the issue. And then, they reported that leakage issue. The whole cabinet was being submerged under water within these two days. So, I had to call the disaster recovery team to replace my cabinets, which I had to spend around $1,200. Everything is done now but the process should have been really simple. It took one and a half months and $1200 for me to get the garbage disposal fixed. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield to my friends. AHS itself is great as well as their site interface and customer service, but there have been issues with the contractors.

This has to be the worse replacement experience. My tenant has been without a dishwasher for over a month now (the dishwasher was ordered on 5/23 and today is 6/23). When the first installer came out to install the unit, the 18 year old son did not know how to shut off the power to the dishwasher. The installer NEVER took the new unit off the truck and left. They then called me to try and reschedule, I gave them the tenant's number AGAIN to set up the appointment but they put the wrong number in the system.
After calling the wrong number for about a week (and never calling me back - why, I don't know), they returned the unit to the manufacturer. When I finally called AHS to see what was going on, I was told we would need to pay an $80 restocking fee. For what I asked? Because they were dialing the wrong number? After several phone calls to AHS and a few hours on hold, they finally acknowledged that it was an error between the delivery company and installer's fault (who said anything that there were two other companies involved? Exactly, I didn't know that. I'm the customer of AHS not some delivery company and installer. I also assume they are one and the same - one company brings the unit out and installs it. AHS was trying to tell me it was my responsibility to work things out with the delivery company and installer).
So AHS finally agrees to not charge me the $80 restocking fee and gets the dishwasher scheduled to be delivered last Friday and the installer was coming on Monday. Surprisingly the delivery came on Friday - miracle number 1. Well, we knew that couldn't last too long. When the installer arrived on Monday, he didn't have some part to connect the water line to the unit. He tells the tenant's son to run to Home Depot as it's only a $5 part. Why doesn't he have that on his truck if it's that cheap? He also tries to tell the tenant that the unit is broken because the spraying arm up top is not connected - of course he tries to say it was like that when he opened it.
He is also supposed to take the old unit with him as that's what AHS agreed to do and what the dispatcher confirmed with my tenant when they called to schedule the installation appointment. Well, surprise, surprise, the guy doesn't take the dishwasher that's been sitting with water in it for the past month and now the whole kitchen stinks. So, I called AHS yesterday afternoon around 4:30 PM to try and get the installer back. I speak with a rep who says they'll get this resolved and get back to me in the morning.
Surprise... it's now 4:30 PM the next day and no one has called to get this resolved. This is the perfect example on how NOT to provide even a glimpse of customer service and a perfect example of incompetence and no personal accountability. How do all three of these parties stay in business (American Home Shield - warranty company, NRX Logistics - delivery co., and Miss Appliance - installer)?

I submitted a work order to American Home Shield (AHS) midday on 06/22/18 because our air conditioner was making a very loud noise. An appointment was scheduled with Cote's Mechanical for 06/25/18. Later that evening the air conditioner went out completely and we called back to have our work order addressed sooner. I was told that my work order was expedited and out into "queue" where they would try to find a technician to fix our AC asap. I was told to call the next morning and if they had not found a technician I could call an outside vendor to do the repairs. I called the next morning and received authorization to get an outside vendor. An outside vendor, AirCare, came around 9 am on 06/23/18 and made a diagnosis for the repairs needed.
We called the number I was given by AHS to get approval for the diagnosis so we could get our AC repaired. AHS said that the cost of the repairs ($485) were too high. AirCare asked how much they needed to come down on the cost and AHS said they would not negotiate and would send someone within 4 hours to give a 2nd opinion. I paid a service fee to AirCare and sent them away. Within 30 minutes I received an email from AHS that I had an appointment with A/C Rescue on 06/26/18. I called AHS and they showed no record that my work order was expedited, any notes of what transpired that morning, or that dispatch was seeking a 2nd opinion. During that phone call I was told they would start looking and had changed my work order to expedited and to call at 1:00.
During that time I called 15 AC repair companies to see if any of them were available to help us if AHS couldn't find someone. All of their quotes for the same repair ranged from $550-$880+ and none of them would work with AHS. I was told multiple times that during past experiences with AHS (sometimes as a vendor) AHS refused to pay them an acceptable amount for work and the customer was cheated. I called at 1:00 and there was no record of any of my phone calls that day, they hadn't found anyone to fix our AC, and they offered us no help until our appointment that week. My husband and I discussed our experience and decided to cancel our contract with AHS. I called back on 06/23/2018 and cancelled my contract that night.
I was told that I would not be charged and someone from the retention department would call me on Monday, 06/25/2018. I did not receive a call on 06/25/2018 so I called that afternoon. My call was dropped twice while being transferred to the retention department. I called back the next day, 06/26/2018 and when I was transferred to the retention department my call was dropped. I called back and told the customer service rep about the dropped calls so they tried to transfer my call while staying on the line and said that the retention department was closed. I was calling during the business hours told to me when I cancelled my contract and so I insisted that they put me through to someone to take care of whatever else needed to be done to cancel my contract.
I waited on hold for over 20 minutes and eventually got through to the retention department. The representative I spoke to reviewed everything that had occurred over the past few days. Every time I called on Saturday had no record of any calls or correct information regarding my work order? I was told that my contract was prorated from the day of cancellation and the balance would go towards the "administrative fees" required to close my account. I had a reimbursement to submit and was given instructions and an email address to submit the required information. I verified all information multiple times to make sure there was no misunderstanding. I got off the call and sent the email right away. It came to me because it was not a valid email address.
I called back and spoke to a different representative in the retention department. She reviewed the details of my previous phone call. I noticed that she mentioned that my prorate was for today's date (06/26/2018) and not my original cancellation date 06/23/2018. I explained that the email came back. She said I wasn't suppose to send an email. I was suppose to MAIL the information to an address she could give me. More of the same from the weekend. I mailed everything to address and we will see if I actually get my reimbursement. It was very apparent that they are trying to wear me down with waiting on hold, dropped calls, changing the procedure, etc. so that they can avoid paying for my claim. We purchased a house and got a home warranty from AHS as they were the best reviewed and said that an inspection and prior rework history on appliances was not needed. When our air conditioner gave out in the middle of the summer, they sent someone to look at it, and five days later (in the hottest part of the summer) they said they would not honor any repairs as there was a “pre-existing condition”. When purchasing a home, anything could be classified under this ambiguous definition. Additionally, we were not allowed, even after requesting, to speak to a supervisor for clarification. My impression is that they will pay out small claims to have good reviews from people but will refuse any large claims as it would hurt their bottom line. The attempt to not allow us to not get any clarification also was very shady/underhanded.

When American Home Shield hires companies, I don't know if they pay them good or not. Because they put the excuse that they don't wanna do the job or they say, "can't get the access to there so we can't do this business". Nevertheless, I got three houses with American Home Shield and the last claim I did, there was a leak on the shower and they fixed that one. They also checked out the second shower because it was the same thing. Moreover, they checked my sink and everything was good. It was the first time this company went and it was the first time they did very well. I was very satisfied.

I've been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years and I've been pleased with the coverage and the service. I first heard of them from a co-worker who had bought a home that was not newly built. She told me how American Home Shield had really helped on a number of occasions when her air conditioning or the refrigerator went out and she was unable to find a friend of a friend. Since at that time my husband was alive and he was not a handyman, I thought it would be a good investment. If something did happen we would know immediately what to do and who to call.
When I had each of my attic units go out, American Home Shield was very clear when they explained what they would cover and what would be my responsibility. But aside from that, my air conditioning system is as old as my house and I have found throughout the many seasonal events that there are some companies that are much better quality service than others. There was one AC contractor that I don’t ever wanna have back. He fixed the first unit in the attic but when the second unit went out six months later, I had another company come in that was really good and they actually had to repair some things that weren't done right on that first unit. After that, I looked on Yelp and people were putting out that the first contractor would quote customers a little price but then they don’t fix the unit right. That would make them have to come back and I tried to give American Home Shield a heads up.
So when I had another issue with my AC, I called and spoke with someone on the phone. I assured them I knew I could do a claim online and I gave them my reason why. But the air conditioning company that I wanted was no longer doing work with American Home Shield. I asked the representative to read me the other names off the list and I picked the one that actually came out and did the work.
I liked that the technician kept in touch well through texting. He would say that he was gonna be here in so many minutes. Plus, his appearance was clean and his demeanor was polite. He didn’t waste any time either, and I thought that was really odd. Most of them waste time. They wanna go up in the attic and check the unit there. But he didn’t do that. I told him that I was sitting here one day and the air conditioning downstairs was working then 12 hours later, it was not. And he went right to work on the outside unit. He explained to me that I was one of a dozen calls in my neighborhood, which was a very unusual spike and he said there must have been a surge because everybody had the same problem where it blew a capacitor. It was really nice that he took that initiative to notice it was rare to get that many calls all in one area at the same time with this exact same complaint.
I thought that was really something to keep in mind. That was why I called and asked for the previous air conditioning company that had done major work on my attic unit that failed. A lot of people assume that the technicians are stupid but they're not. They're not book smart but a lot of them are really great. I appreciated that this guy noticed that this event had occurred and so he went directly out to mine to see if in fact it also had occurred in the same manner and it did.
I asked if he had to check upstairs and he said no. He knew that that was the issue. He also said that I could call him back if something is not right and he would come back since he was gonna be out here for a while. It was reassuring that he didn’t say that I would have to call American Home Shield again if something went wrong. Plus, I thought that if it was gonna fail and it's something upstairs in the attic unit, it would fail right away. But it has all been fine. And I really appreciated the fact that he was on the ball, that he was thinking like that so that everybody could get their air back on and he could get this many calls done within a reasonable amount of time.
American Home Shield has always been great and I tell everybody that I have them. They say this one or that one is cheaper and I'm like “Yeah, but you get what you pay for.” Besides, American Home Shield has several levels. So if this one is not affordable, they have two others you can choose from. It's not a matter of going over here and getting a better deal. People have to check out everything American Home Shield offers first and they might find that for $5 a month more, they get a little more coverage than another plan.

I called and spoke to an American Home Shield representative for my air condition. The interaction was very easy and simple, and I gave them my information. They told me what I needed to do and they said that they’ll have someone to give me a call and that they’ll be out here as soon as possible. A tech came out and he checked my filter. He changed the filter, checked the air condition, got it back running and then he went outside and checked the air condition again. He did a wonderful job. Having American Home Shield is the best $60 something I spend a month.

You need to get a warranty when you buy a new house. I have American Home Shield and the first thing we had done was plumbing, and it saved us a lot of money. I've also had my washer and the air conditioner fixed. If we would've had a plumber, a guy to fix my washing machine out, and an air conditioner guy, then that would have been a lot of money. What we paid a year has already been covered plus some.
To submit a claim, sometimes we call. But when we had the issue with the air conditioner, we did it on the computer and my daughter said that the navigation was easy. However, it was a little tough having to wait as long as I had to wait to get somebody. We called it in on Thursday evening, and it was Tuesday before anybody could come out, and that was because it was a holiday weekend. It was 100 degrees, and it was rough, but we made it through. It would have been nicer if it had been a little quicker. Still, Rescue Heating and Air came out and the tech was excellent. He was very helpful, and gave me hints as to what to do to keep this from happening again. He found out that the line that goes the outside for the water to drip out was clogged up. And he cleaned it up, and it's now working perfect.

The refrigerator quit working as far as keeping everything cool so I made the claim with American Home Shield. I got an email that said it was gonna take 24 hours but everything had gone out so I ended up having to follow up with CAL-PRO Factory Service immediately to see if I could get somebody out here on an urgent need. The technician came out that afternoon and it was a great experience. He knew exactly what the problem was and showed it to me. He did not have the part in stock so he had to order but he set the expectation and the timeline of when it would come in so at least I knew what I needed to do. He texted me to say he got the part in and that he would be out here that Friday morning. Then he showed up and changed out the part, and everything started working immediately. It was seamless and absolutely flawless.

I’ve had American Home Shield for several years and I did the claims over the phone but online is faster so I switched to that. The reps on the phone don’t tell you anything anyway so when somebody calls you, you can talk turkey. But the contractors have been very good, professional and courteous. Plus, they always solve the problem. AHS is a very good service and an easy way to get a contractor to your house. I don’t have to figure out who to call and I don’t have to ask for recommendations from people which is something I’ve never done before. They’ve always sent me good people and I just went with it.

Getting in touch with American Home Shield used to be difficult but now, I find it easier to reach them through filing claims online. I filed one for our dishwasher and they had to replace a motor. My issue with American Home Shield was that when I called them, I didn’t realize that I had to list every single problem. For example, I had a plumbing issue so I had the plumber come out and he was looking at my sink, and then I asked him to look at something else in the bathroom. And he said that he couldn't look at it because it was not on his work order.
I also had a problem with AHS during a winter and our central heater went out. It was one of the things that's covered under the plan I have but for some reason, they told me it wasn’t covered. So, I ended up having to pay around $1,500 to get a new one. I have a hard time with what’s covered and what’s not covered. If it’s listed on there, then it should be covered. And I had thought about dropping AHS but my wife convinced me to keep it. For the most part after that, it’s been fairly okay. We had some issues with our oven and AHS had a guy come out here and look it. The guy replaced something in it but he also told me it was something with our electrical box.
So then, I had to file another claim and pay another $75 to get the electrical guy to come out here. He told me that there was nothing wrong with the electrical box. So then, they sent the guy who worked on the oven back and come to find out, he had hooked up something wrong and that was the reason it was shorting out. So, I spent all that money and it could’ve been fixed right the first time. There was no reason for me to pay for the electrician to come out here, but they gave me a credit for that.
For the most part as well, the contractors have been great people who do the best job they can. With our washer issue, the guy had to come out here three times within a month. The washer kept doing the same thing. If the washer goes out, it takes them three or four days to get somebody out here, which isn’t a big deal. But then, if it goes out again the next week, then I’ve gotta wait another three or four days. That happened three times. And so I have an issue with that too. If the problem keeps persisting, when is enough and when does AHS go ahead and just get their customer a new one? I looked at the bills that the guys left for the warranty people and they could’ve paid for two washers.

Submitting a claim with AHS didn't go well at first, especially when we submitted for the washer. We called AHS telling them that there was something wrong with the washer as there was a knocking sound. The appliance repair-guy came on a Thursday and he didn't recommend replacement on the washer. He just checked the washer and then said that there was nothing wrong with it. But then on Saturday morning, my wife turned on the washer and left to do some marketing and do some breakfast. When I came back home, my whole house was flooded. The guy that AHS assigned it to, didn't really check it. Now, I'm out of my house for almost two months and living in a hotel.
Another claim was for the microwave, which was cracked. I reported both the microwave and the washer with AHS, and the same people checked the microwave, saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it was just cracked and it was superficial. However, it was leaking microwave air out of it because of the crack. So, I requested that AHS get me another repair people that would check on it. And lo and behold, they sent this another company, which was good.
They checked the appliances and said that the washer was unrepairable. He found a lot of wrong with the washer, so he recommended it to be replaced. And the same thing with the microwave, because it was leaking radioactive air out of the microwave, it was being replaced as well. They're going to replace the microwave today. However, I didn't like the washer that they gave me, so I had to buy another one and AHS would reimburse me for that. But I have not received the reimbursement yet up to this day. They said it would take a while.
I was very dissatisfied with my experience with AHS because of the things that happened. AHS should get rid of that other company that they sent in. They didn't give out the exact solution to the problem. We cannot sue AHS because they said that it was secondary damage, but my lawyers are looking into that. Also, when I called them, they wouldn't pick up for the longest time. I would be on hold for an hour before I could talk to a sales rep or customer service rep. I cannot recommend AHS to others due to the instance and their service problem. I would tell others that AHS has the worst customer service. You cannot talk to anybody if there's a problem. But, they can talk to somebody, who will pick up right away, if they want to enroll or buy from AHS.
Good morning Ruben,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience to have several appliances repaired as well as the hold times to speak with a customer service representative. I am glad to hear that the second contractor was able to complete the work but I know there are a few lingering concerns. I would be glad to speak with you and address them.

One of the stove's four burners was broken and we informed American Home Shield for repair. They sent the contracting company and they came. The contractor asked for spare parts so we waited for two or three weeks. But when they installed the new spare parts, two of the flames were very, very low and I could not cook on any of them. They are working good and the flames are blue but they don't get high enough. It takes a long time to cook. If I put anything to be done by within half an hour, it's gonna take three to four hours. So now, instead of one broken burner, there are two and we use only the other two working burners.
I called several times and they sent the technician. We had the same complaint and the contractor did their best. The guy said the stove is working and I agree but we still cannot use it. And American Home Shield hasn't been responding to me since two weeks ago. Maybe the third party that they're using to repair the stove is not good. They should go with a different company or find a way to replace the parts again and do it better. They replaced the parts, but it was not the same.
Usually, my experience with American Home Shield when submitting claims is very good. Two or three months ago, with the dishwasher, they repaired it right away, very perfect. The technician replaced the part and everything is working good. I've been with American Home Shield for almost a year and a half now and it's only two claims that I did, one for the dishwasher and one for this stove. Recently, they sent me a letter for renewal in July and they increased the price to $60 monthly instead of $55. They shouldn't do that because the best thing that I got is the price.

When the three-way switch in the house was installed incorrectly, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I had an awesome experience. American Home Shield has been very helpful. Most recently, I filed a claim for the AC that had the fan motor went out and the agent who I talked to on the phone was really nice. But then within six weeks, there were about four times that the contractor had to come out to fix the AC because things just didn’t last. It was irritating as we almost lost our renters. We had to pay for them for a month of rent. But, we accepted the loss and the contractor finally got the AC fixed. The last guy was good and everything’s been fine since he came out. As far as their part, American Home Shield tries to do their very best. People should know that it's always good to have that extra warranty right there for them.

My air conditioning unit wasn't cooling and so I set up a service request with American Home Shield online. Their site was user-friendly and I had no trouble setting it up. They were very quick to respond once I've sent in a request. The contractor came out the next day after submitting the claim. He was very good, very confident, professional and it didn't take him very long to diagnose the problem. He got the parts ordered and it worked out best for me. I was here when he diagnosed the problem. He told me what all was going on and that everything could be fixed at the outside unit. So I didn't need to be here when he repaired it. It was no more than two days that he had the parts here, he came back and did the repairs. By the time I got home that evening, the AC was cooling great and it now works like a champ.
Fortunately, it had cooled off just a little bit during the two days the AC was out, so it wasn't unbearable. Still, I was happy they could get it fixed as quickly as they did. I'm very pleased with my experience with AHS. I would tell others that AHS would probably be their best bet to go with 'cause I have had no problems with them at all.

The process in submitting a claim was very simple. The online site was so accessible and using it was extremely easy. We didn't even have to talk to an individual and talk them into sending somebody. It was all automated and quick. The second you hit submit, the company that's gonna be coming to your house is already identified. Their address, phone number and name are there. It's incredible.
Our upstairs air conditioner was coming on but it was just blowing hot air. It was over a holiday weekend and the technician called on a Sunday. He let us know that he would be coming right out as soon as we could set up a time with them. He came out the next morning, which was less than 24 hours. He didn't have to come in the house and he was able to do everything from outside. He said the Freon was down two pounds and everything else was working fine. Home Shield dictated what he should do next and they recommended he put in the 2 pounds of Freon, which we had to pay for. He put a sealer in it too. They thought if it was just a pinhole then that would seal the refrigerant and take care of the problem. But apparently it was worse than that could handle. In about a week, the Freon was all gone again and the air conditioner was blowing hot.
So we had to call Home Shield again and everything has been working since the technician changed the coil. He also refilled the system with the refrigerant, which they didn't charge us for which was great. The technician was very responsive and professional. He knew what he was doing and he worked quickly. So far, we're extremely satisfied with Home Shield's response time and the quality of technicians that they are partnered with. It's way better than my wife and I expected. It was absolutely a positive experience all the way around.

However, I'm so upset with the company that AHS chose to service my son's dryer. They still haven't gotten it fixed and that claim was about a month ago. They said that they had to order the part, which I understand, and then they said that the part was on backorder. So it took three weeks to get the part. Then they came out to install the motor. Before they came out, we asked them to please call us because my son is out of town, so one of us would have to come and meet them at his house. And every time, they would never call us. They just leave a note on our door that said that they were there and that they missed us and we have to reschedule it.
The second time that happened was today. They were supposed to be there from 8:00 to 12:00. I told them that that was fine. I also asked them to call me and told them that I can be there in five minutes. They got there at 9 o'clock. I ended up calling them at noon, asking them where they were. My boys were roasting at the house and I was trying to get them out here. But it was not necessarily the contractor's fault and it would've been better if I was in the country.
I was also a little disappointed because the technician didn’t tell me what was wrong and what caused my air conditioning unit not to come on. But he might not have been in the best of moods. He got stung by a wasp while he was on my unit. Now, the air conditioning unit is rumbling and the house doesn’t get as cold as it should so I’m gonna call a service tech out to service the unit. I bought the house less than a year ago so I don’t know any history of the unit and I don’t think American Home Shield covers maintenance-type work. But I’ve had three claims with them and this was my only nick in this one.

The air conditioning unit stopped working and you can’t live in Texas in the summer without air conditioning. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. Their website is very easy to use and the contractor that they sent was terrific. He worked hard and didn’t mess around. He wasn’t really big on chitchat which was fine. He told us what was happening and that he needed to get a part and that he’d be back. He came back the next day and he took care of everything. Since the repair, everything's been great.

I moved into a new community home and the hot water valve was leaking. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online but I was concerned that the plumber wasn’t coming since it has been a couple of weeks. Then they sent a contractor to fix that and he was professional. While he was here, I asked him to look at another possible leak and he diagnosed a leak in the toilet. He had to cut into the drywall before he figured out that it wasn’t in the drywall, but he fixed the other problem. Overall, I’ve been pleased so far with the service that I've gotten from American Home Shield.

My central air conditioner went out and AHS set out a service tech. He said the coil would have to be replaced. He gave the option of replacing the whole unit because of the R-22 phase out and said that AHS would pay what the new coil and installation would have been, estimating about $1,500. I called a local company and they said that it would be about $1800 to replace the coil so the estimate sounded reasonable. I called AHS and explained the situation and they assured me that yes, they could give me a cash payout depending on what the tech reported and I could just buy a new unit on my own. So I had a new 4 ton air conditioner installed the next day.
When AHS contacted me ONE WEEK later they said they would send a check for $584 - slightly shy of the $1500 previously discussed! When I called to complain they said that the $584 represented what THEY would have had to pay (although that barely covers the cost of the part and refrigerant, let alone the 3-5 hours it takes to install). I was basically told it was too bad that both the A/C tech sent out by AHS AND the AHS rep that I talked to on the phone gave me the "wrong information". I had a very bad experience with AHS many years ago and got talked into using them again because "they had changed". Not hardly. Even though I've been with them 8 years I will be switching coverage on my home and rental properties to another company. Along with warning my realtor colleagues about AHS's unethical behaviour.

Well, HVAC situation is a mess at this point. Not sure what will happen, but I have two HVAC units that both went out. (It's 100 degrees here in Florida!) Both are older units and the coils are looking very rough. I was just told that American Home Shield rarely replaces coils but will keep patching them up. Just paid $100 for the service fee plus $225 for freon for one unit and probably another $225 for freon for the second unit. Why American Home Shield won't allow the repair guys to check for leaks on this visit is beyond me but I was told if the unit stop working again, that's when they check for leaks. Kind of silly and costly for me to have to keep putting freon in them. Anyway, also was told that American Home Shield will almost never replace a unit. I have no idea what's going to happen at this point with my system.
Updated on 09/13/2018: My experience with American Home Shield the past eight months with my HVAC unit has been an incredible nightmare. I bought this house 18 months ago and have been living in it for about a year. I started having major problems which my HVAC unit this past winter. It began to make a horrible noise in the middle of the night when it was going into defrost mode. In order to prevent it from just crashing, I called American Home Shield and they sent a service guy out. The service guy from Total Air Care in Jacksonville, FL barely looked at the unit and then told me that if the unit was still working there was nothing he could do. He left and I paid my $100.
Fast forward to September 2018. My downstairs unit completely dies and is not cooling. I once again call American Home Shield. They send a repair guy out again from the company that came out in June called Comfort Zone. This time they send a different serviceman than the one that came in June and the serviceman goes outside and declares that the unit is not working because there is dog pee on it. This is the first I've heard of dog pee on my HVAC unit. I tell him that the dogs cannot fit behind the unit and the house to pee on it, however, he says that that is what the problem is and he tells this to American Home Shield. Bingo! Ancient 10-year-old system, in which the coil has been failing for months now is now declared broken and it's broken from reasons other than normal wear and tear and so the WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. What a bunch of BS.
FYI - No other serviceman that has come out and seen this unit has said anything about dog urine, including the guys that came out in January 2018 and June 2018. But how convenient, the minute the unit actually fails and is no longer working at all, that is what the problem is said to be. And isn't it just amazing that the warranty simply doesn't cover that problem. I have wasted so much money with American Home Shield. Paying the $100 dollars co-pays for the service people to come out, paying my monthly dues, this company really is truly criminal. I advise anybody that is reading this comment to stay away from American Home Shield. They use their own repairmen who I believe are coached as to what to say and do. They will only take your hard earned money and put it in their pockets.

I have been waiting for a cash in lieu payment for 6-8 weeks and every time I call, I get the runaround. I am either told that the check will be cut on the following Tuesday (checks are only cut on Tuesdays) and that I should receive it within 10-14 business days; or I am told that I have not yet accepted the cash in lieu offer and that I will need to speak with the relevant department. This is very unexpected given my prior experiences with AHS. I have filed 4-5 claims in the 10+ years I have been with AHS and they had always provided prompt reliable service and great customer service even when my problem was not covered by my plan.
My under-range microwave went up in April. A service call was promptly scheduled for a service person to look at my microwave. He arrived on time and was great; he quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary parts. The parts quickly arrived and another appointment was set. The second service person also arrived on time and was also pleasant but he said he was afraid to make the repair because he was afraid he would damage the surrounding cabinets. Rather than repair the microwave, AHS agreed to replace it. Although there was a slight delay in receiving the microwave (most likely not AHS' fault), then the microwave was delivered for installation, the service people again said they would not install the microwave because they were afraid of damaging the surrounding cabinets.
AHS offered cash in lieu of installation (up to $125) because they could not find an alternate company to install the microwave. The installation cost $200; and I was told I could request/petition payment of the full amount. I made the request which was denied. As I said, my previous experiences with AHS were wonderful but this one has been so awful that I am considering switching to another home warranty company.

My air conditioning broke on May 4, 2018. I called AHS to schedule a repair. My A.C. was 17 years old. The technician arrived and said it was fixable and needed a new circuit board on the outside unit called a frost board. Said it was easily obtained. Scheduled an appointment to fix. He sent a subcontractor who did not have the piece indicated. The subcontractor tried various fixes before coming to the same conclusion a frost board was needed and they had to order the part.
Now this was 2 weeks after the first person wrote on the order a frost board was needed. They left leaving all the wires on the air handler exposed. I took a picture of it and called them back to properly put back together. (the outside unit was also left open and not recovered) After another 2 weeks of nonresponse I decided to purchase a new unit. AHS told me that they would give me the cost of the repair I did not get to put towards my new A.C. I was told they would contact me. So far nothing.

Advised that no electric at all and wife is permanently disabled and need power before then. Over 90 degrees in home and food spoiled. I called 4 more additional times on Sunday and was told that they can not help me because they are doing computer maintenance.
Called again this Monday morning and said will try to help and sent out another expedited request at 7 AM... Here it is noon and still no response on when my electric will be turned on. Do not waste your money. The contractors they hire are very unreliable. They do not communicate well. It took 2 weeks for a faucet to be fixed last year and after three weeks of waiting on my air conditioning this month they claim they couldn’t repair it and it was not covered by the warranty. This is not a reliable company. I Switch to them after using Home Warranty of America for three years because they were cheaper. I am going back to Home Warranty of America. They have more responsive, local, reliable contractors.
Updated on 06/26/2018: The worse part about it. When I received a call on Monday from a Manager. They ask me why I did not reach out to the 3rd contractor and I waited 7 days and that I should have reach out to them. Unfortunately I gave up on reaching out to any contractors after 3 weeks of wait. I first reported the AC broken on 5/29 and I have called American Home Shield about 8 times (every time about 20-30 minutes wait and 1 hour on the phone). I have also called the first contractor 4 times and the second one 3 times. I do not have the time to call contractors to make sure that they are doing the job you hire them for! (You guarantee a response within 48 hours, this was never the case).
I had to fix my AC with my own contractor that my neighbor recommended. He was at my house within 4 hours after my call and repaired it the same day. You took 3 weeks to tell me that the repair was not covered by the warranty. That is totally unacceptable. I also asked the manager to get my $125 back because the first contractor repaired the capacitor but it did not fix the problem. She refused and said that the $125 is just for the contractor to show up. This is also a poor practice as you send a contractor, he does not fix the problem and you still keep my deductible.
I have cancel my warranty because the time to repair anything is unacceptable. The fact that I have to wait multiple weeks and call every other day AHS or a contractor is also unacceptable. I had HOME WARRANTY OF AMERICA for many years. They have repaired the same AC in summer 2014 within 2 days after my call and I just paid my deductible. You guarantee a contractor within 2 days of call but the contractor are not following through. Thank you.
Good morning Pierre,

Garage Door Opener: This claim was denied and I was forced to purchase a new unit with my own funds. Here is why: the contractor they sent to my house to inspect the unit deemed the unit functional even though the remotes would not open the garage door. I purchased 3 new remotes, all of which were OEM (GENIE) remotes, no aftermarket junk, and none of them worked. However, because you could open the garage door from the button inside the garage, it was deemed operational. Now, what good is a garage door opener if you cannot open it remotely? This forced my wife, with our 6 month old baby, to get out of her car, go inside the house and open the garage door and then get back in her car and drive it into the garage. Mind you, we live in an area that summer temperatures exceed 110 degrees.
Plumbing issue: We had a water pipe break in our attic, the plumbing contractor was great and did a great repair, no issues here. However, the hole he made in the ceiling was never patched. AHS NEVER sent a contractor out to finish the drywall and patch the hole. They simply wrote us a check, some 6 weeks after the plumbing repair, for an amount that would not cover the repairs. What I take issue with is the time-frame. Really, 6 weeks? And, AHS is "connected" to ServiceMaster. ServiceMaster could have done the repairs. In fact, the quote I got from my local ServiceMaster was far higher than the $100 check they sent us for the repair. AHS home insurance is like dealing with Fred Loya Auto Insurance. They look for every way to do the worst repair, on the cheapest dime but happily take your monthly dues and deductibles. Proceed with caution!!!

The one thing that is still a little challenging for me is understanding what benefits we have with them. Part of it is because I haven’t read all the information they’ve sent. But the way that they operated the situation may have contributed to the delay. Whatever they put there did not turn out right and I’ve been in so many calls with them. They haven’t put my pool back and we’ve never used it. I was very upset and unhappy because it took them that long to address the issue and that's unusual with any home insurance company.

Otherwise, I had no problem navigating through the website. American Home Shield also has a quick response of calling you back.
The problem was that the AC unit was kicking on but no air was coming out. I could hear the outside unit humming but the attic unit was not blowing cool air. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out and the technician said that the unit was low on three pounds of Freon. Then everything was good after that. But I didn’t like having to pay an extra fee for them coming on the weekend. Once, the unit went out on a Wednesday and US Air could not come that week. It was gonna have to be the following week unless it was a weekend and if they come out on the weekend, there was an extra $97 charge. American Home Shield had their contractors come out on more than one occasion. The recent one was for the ice maker not dispensing, and my dispenser wasn't dispensing water correctly. I called and spoke to an AHS representative and I had a great interaction with her. She went through the procedures. She also told me about the procedures that they had to follow and how they would pick out a service provider for me, and if I didn’t agree with that service provider, I could pick out a different one, then if I have a lot of problems with that provider, I could either ask for the supervisor or I could ask to be switched to a different service provider. They have a list of providers.
The first time the contractor came out, he was automatic and he figured out everything that I needed. He went back and ordered the part although it took a bit for him to get the part, and the part was on backorder. When the part came in, they called me and set up an appointment for me to be home or have someone at home to install the part. They came and installed the part for me, and the refrigerator worked one more day and started doing the same thing. So, the technician called back for a replacement part for that same part that he ordered. But they did not have a replacement part for it so they ended up supplying me with a new refrigerator of my choice out of their list. I’m satisfied with how AHS handled the situation.

So as far as what I put in the claim for, everything was all fixed up. AHS always seemed to be on my side. In fact, they had my back on that incident. Overall the experience with them has been fine. Sometimes, it's hard to get the feedback on what's going on from American Home Shield. I filed a claim on the phone for my air conditioner. When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I do it online. It's a lot easier and more descriptive. Moreover, I work with a computer. Last year, my issue with them is that the wait time is way too long. Sometimes it could be 30 minutes, sometimes it could be 40 minutes. It was during summer and maybe a lot of people have a call with their air conditioning. But in general, the representatives are polite and professional. It's the contracts that are bad. I supposed to have a warranty that covers most of the cost of repair, it ends up I have to put a lot of money and making me question having a warranty.
One particular contractor was Amazing Plumbing. They were very bad, unprofessional even. I have several direct phone calls with them. They're impatient and doesn’t want to explain the detail. Additionally, the cost is extraordinarily high. For example, I have a one AC unit replacement and that unit replacement cost $2,700.40. Recently I just replaced my primary residence’s air conditioning. It's roughly a little bit over $4,000. So, the AC unit, I paid roughly like 60% to 70%.
The other replacement I have is my water heater and Amazing Plumbing cited a lot of regulation code which I believe they have fabricated. Basically, they asked me to pay another $900 which I repeatedly argue and bargain with. Otherwise, it would have been $1,050. So, the water heater even if I go to the street and just call a water heater company, would probably cost $1,500. In closing, there should be a way that American Home Shield can set a bar or filter certain contractor. The company is too big, they can't look into every individual contractor but when the client has issues, there should be a way that American Home Shield can have some influence on how the contractor is dealing with the home repair as well. From now on, I don’t see anything that American Home Shield would help me with other than switching contractor.

They started the first week in June, and I've been without a refrigerator for the last two weeks. And I've had four different technicians. Each one of them, when they come, they say, “The guy who was here before, that’s not what's wrong with it, and he ordered all these parts. I'm sending them back, and I'm ordering what I think it is”.
Now this last time, my husband liked the technician, who ordered some parts. They arrived two days ago, but the soonest they could schedule me a technician was Thursday, the 28th. So I'm beginning to think I can't get my refrigerator fixed, and not because they can't find the parts, and it's not repairable. I think it is. It's just that Sears can't send me technicians on a frequent basis. Every time a new technician comes out, that's another week or a week and a half to reorder new parts and then schedule somebody out here. Nevertheless, we have used AHS quite a bit. I believe we've gotten a new hot water heater using that. We had a brand new heat and air system installed a couple of summers ago. It was beneficial.

We have an old AC that is nearing the end of its service life and I bought the policy with American Home Shield for $600 so that if something went wrong with the AC, I could get it repaired and replaced. But because it's getting old is not an excuse for it to get replaced and I'm sitting around for five or six hours every day where it won't keep up when it's really hot and I won't be able to use American Home Shield's service to have it fixed until it dies. That means if it doesn't die in three years, I have to pay $600 a year just to keep it, so that when it dies, then I won't have to pay an arm and a leg to get it replaced, or I can just go ahead and get it replaced myself right now and be done with it. So I'm not really happy with that particular aspect of it.
The interactions with the representative from American Home Shield and the contractors have been fine. And the contractors were very nice. When a guy comes out and does a diagnostic, the AC doesn't keep up with the hot weather and it's not considered a deficiency of performance by AHS. In other words, it was designed to keep up with the hot weather, not keep with hot weather. To me, it's either fixed or it's not fixed. If the thing is not keeping up in the hot weather, to my definition, there's something wrong with the air conditioner. But with American Home Shield, there's nothing wrong with it at all as long as it's running. It could die tomorrow or it could die five years from now.
So, I'm stuck with a hot house during the summer for four or five hours while I'm waiting for the AC to die. If it's not working, then AHS should do something about it. I have guests over and I gotta pull out a bunch of fans, so it's really inconvenient and there's nothing I can do about it. A new unit's gonna cost $5,000, but I don't have $5,000. The policy they have is not very customer-centric. They're saving in sales money by not having to replace it because it should be able to keep up with the weather, but it's not a fair policy.
I understand your concerns with the cost comparison of the warranty and whether it is better to repair or replace a unit. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your air conditioner service request with the best possible solution.

The tech sent by American Home Shield from 495 Garage Door was a little late and I thought to complain about it, but he called, apologized and then he came. He asked me what the problem was, explained it to me and then said, “This is what I need to do.” And he did that. He managed to solve my problem and was fantastic.

Our air conditioner was acting up and I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out. He was real nice and he fixed it. What I liked about it is he explained things and looked over everything. It took time because it was outside and he also had to go up in our attic and it was super hot. He was an older gentleman and I went and offered him some water because I figured he was thirsty from being up in the attic. He wouldn't take me for it but he had some water out in the truck and that's okay. He got it fixed. He also had someone else after us but he didn’t hurry up. He just wanted to get both places done.
It was a nice experience. It was one of those days it was gonna be hot and you go and then all of a sudden, you don’t have no air on in your air conditioner. And AHS was real helpful. The only thing was when I went to go to pay my service charge, I couldn't find where to pay it at. I don’t know if it was just the website or I wasn’t looking in the right spot because I hadn’t ever used them before. This is my first time so I was kinda new at it. While I go in there where they said "Pay" I couldn't see anywhere to pay it at. Maybe they need to have a little pamphlet that spelled it out more. I was supposed to call them but we live out in the rural area so I wasn’t sure and I wouldn't have known who to call.
But I am real happy with the company, with who they send out. And I didn’t have to wait for a day or so to have someone come out. It's a very valuable warranty. It's something that everyone should have. When we bought the house a couple of years ago it was all inspected and we hadn’t had any problem. And then, all of a sudden, there's nowhere to know when the problem is going to hit. It could have been the washer-dryer or all these appliances on it too. The warranty is really nice when you're on a fixed income that you don’t have all that huge amount.

There was an issue with our outlet and it spread a little bit in my house. We were just having a simple problem and then all of a sudden, we lost electricity in the closet in our bedroom. We also lost all the plugs in our living room. We called American Home Shield to file a claim for it and they were very professional. When the gentleman came out, he was able to diagnose it pretty quickly and found the source of it. He said that the problem started from a location at the front door where there were three switches. There was one switch for the eve light, one for the light at the entryway outside and one for the motion light.
We had installed some timers into those switches so they would come on at a certain time every night and we could program the timers for the different times of the year. We put this a couple of years ago and somewhere in there, there was a short with the wiring. Then once the gentleman fixed it, everything else started working. He was very knowledgeable. The only thing that’s not working now is the eve lights outside. Nevertheless, we were very satisfied with the professionalism and timeliness of AHS.

I had an AC problem where my roof was leaking, and so I had somebody come and check it out. Navigating through the AHS website was pretty rough. It doesn’t take you to where you need to go to find the answer. It basically just tells you, “We’re not available right now. So, you need to call this number.” Then you call that number and they give you another runaround.
It took two days for a tech to come and when he came, it was horrible. They made an appointment for 9 AM and I took the day off not to go to work to get this resolved. The guy didn’t show up until close to 9 PM just to tell us, “We don’t do anything like this because there’s sheetrock involved. So, you need to call somebody else tomorrow.” So, a 12-hour day was wasted. A different guy would come back two days later and fix the problem. The leak is done but the sheetrock hasn’t been fixed yet. The contractor said I need to get with American Home Shield for them to figure out if they wanna send somebody or not, but based on how long it's been, it's more likely that they’re not gonna try to cover it. I wouldn't recommend them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I had a claim for my AC and the first contractor that AHS sent which was from some place in Austin told it would take two weeks before they could go out. So, I called them and said that that was unacceptable and I couldn't do it. The house is a rental house and the lady has six kids and it's hot there. So, they gave me this Arctic air conditioning and every time I look them up, I couldn't find an address or anything. I called the number and finally, they answered. I told the guy that their message doesn't even tell who I'm calling when it goes to the answering machine. And then it says, "Leave a message for" and it doesn't say anything. I left a message and hoped I'm at the right number.
The tech was out Friday afternoon about 4:04 and said he didn't hear anything back. He was gonna go and get a blower motor for the air conditioner unit in the attic. He asked what was about the AC that was not cooling. I told him that it was hot up there. I waited and I called about 10:00 o'clock and he said, "I'll get approval." I asked if he ever called AHS yet and if he got an approval. He said "No. Not yet" and he turned over to some girl and I then I thought, "I'll call American Home Shield." They said, "No, she couldn't do with the customer service," but she got a hold of me and told me I had to call the other number and get her 'okay'.
And then, I didn't hear anything. I called him and he said, "They're supposed to call you." I said that was an hour ago and asked him to talk to AHS. And I said, "He won't tell me anything." So I called and got hold of somebody and I was told that they rejected the claim because the technician said the AC was dirty, not filter-changed and that's what burned it up. The outside unit has been changed out, not the one in the attic. The last time the outside unit was done was in '98, it has been 20 years.
So, I told the girl at AHS that if she's going to deny the claim because the guy told her that we didn't change filters, any amount of dirt would get by the filters and for 20 years, it would get dirty up in the attic. Twenty years of constant use, it is understandable it would burn up. I told her that I was not sure if the guy checked the capacitor and see if that was the problem. He just said it would not work. I figured he didn't wanna go up in the attic and fix it. Also, he wouldn't give the address to me. She listened, but she was like everything else. They turned me over to the cancellation and she said that if I'm upset and don't agree with the technician, she would get a second opinion and waive the charge. I wish they would've checked their people and given me reputable people.
I'm at their mercy. When they signed somebody, I had to wait after 24 hours. And then I called within four hours to set an appointment, so I got to wait normally four hours for an appointment. If they don't call, then I got to call in. It's the first time I called to cancel the appointment and set the other one up, so I got another day added on. I'd always get the number and I'd call them direct and tell them it's on their screen and I'd give them the work order number. I'd ask them when they can get out or put me on the list as quick as possible, but I tried to get it moved. It was ridiculous.
In addition, I told them I got older air conditioners. They got R22. I asked them when I took the contract on this house what they would do when it goes out and they don't have R22. She said that's when they gotta upgrade it. They told me they could change over because it would hold the pressure, hopefully. I said that the unit is getting older and they gotta spend money for the changeover to our R-410A and it's been $15-$1600 just put a new unit in. She said that they will decide on that at that time. But right now, they only pay $10 per pound and some of these companies charge $80, $90 a pound for Freon. And then some of them say gotta have a three pound minimum which should be against the law. I told them that if they put a pound in, they should charge me $160 for two pounds that I don't even use.
They sent someone else out and waived my deposit on the other one. So they made another work order. I called American Air and got hold of a girl. She's telling me, "They'll be out tomorrow or perhaps another day." I told her what the front guy said was wrong with it. I told her that the AC is in the attic, it lays on its side, there's a board saw, we can lay it down and pull them out. She said she was gonna try to work with them. It's a really awkward system when the tech got the air condition and filter and I know they changed it. I shouldn't be held accountable for any dirt that was accumulated for 20 years.

I had a contract with American Home Shield for about three years and had no problems dealing with them. When I was gonna get ready to sell my condo, I went back with them upon the advice of my realtor. So, I had the warranty for a few months recently but eventually I cancelled it. I submitted a claim online for an older air conditioner that I have. It has a leak in the pipe that goes back into the home and every time we refill the unit with Freon, the Freon goes back out after a day or two. The air conditioning people put the inductor and said that the leak in the pipe was due to when the roofers worked on the roof. But I don’t own the roof, so I have no control over it.
The tech from AMP who came was friendly doing his job, however, they never completed their contract. They came out the first time and filled the unit with Freon but they never came back out the second time to repair it. I called them and they said they would be back out but they were really busy and behind schedule. They dropped off the face of the earth as far as I’m concerned because I called them a couple of times and they didn’t show back up.

Submitting the claim was smooth-sailing and the response was pretty fast. AHS sent out Air Pro Master and we asked their technician some questions about ventilation in the bathrooms. He had to ask his boss about that because he wasn’t too sure if that was part of the HVAC job so, there were certain things that he was not as knowledgeable about. He said he was gonna give us a call back with what his supervisor said but he never called us. I submitted another claim today because my water heater exploded this morning. When I had a problem with my AC, Total Care was the first group that was sent out by American Home Shield to fix it. They came to the house and did not do what they needed to do. They supposedly diagnosed the problem and they just changed the batteries in the thermostat. I had to call them back out because it still didn’t work. They did something a second time and it didn’t work more than a day or two. Also, I was charged for the repair even though they didn’t do anything. I had to go to someone else to try to figure out what was really wrong because what they were telling me wasn’t what was wrong. So, once I found that out, I called back. I was upset, but the person I talked to told me that they were gonna solve the problem and it’s gonna get fixed. And so, they did.
They made an arrangement for me to pay for the work that wasn’t done last summer and to go ahead and have someone come out and fix it. The guy fixed it and worked around my work schedule and my payday. Plus, he came out on a Saturday, which he didn’t have to do so I really appreciated that. The work order for the claim was the same week and the contractor got here within a day or two of me calling and he diagnosed the problem. I postponed it for a little while just waiting for my paycheck so it took two weeks but it wasn’t AHS, it was just the situation. Since then, it’s been fine and I was very satisfied. But I was worried about that first company because part of providing the service is the person does what they’re expected to because you pay for that and if they don’t do what they need to do, that’s not just their reputation but that would be American Home Shield’s reputation too.

I first had Affordable Comfort and Construction come out in the middle of April. They checked everything and said everything was fine with the AC. At first it was blowing fine. It was good enough to get by. But that one week where I had called before the AC went completely out, I had family over and it was too hot. The contractor came out on a Friday to look at it but they said they had to order a part. They couldn’t get it so they had to come back on Monday to fix it. So I had to wait the whole weekend.
When they came on Monday, they found something else wrong so I had to wait another day. On Tuesday, they came out for something and found out it was something else. So then it was another day. They came out on Wednesday to replace the air compressor and fixed whatever else. Finally, it was blowing and then they left. It took forever and luckily, I bought a wall air conditioner. I should’ve never had to do that in the first place but it was a good thing I did.
Also, they had asked if I left my credit card information so I could pay for whatever it is they needed to bill me. I wasn’t there that time so they were gonna call me. Somebody called me and I gave them my card information but they never ran my card. Even when I tried to get a hold of them in their office, nobody answered the phone.
I called American Home Shield to make a complaint about the contractor and American Home Shield called them. They said I had no invoice and that everything was prepaid. So I was like, “Okay. Well, who is this person that got my information?” So I had to cancel that card and order a new one. Affordable Comfort and Construction was horrible. Maybe they’re the cheapest people American Home Shield can pay for contracting but AHS needs a different contractor or maybe another one. Nonetheless, American Home Shield was great. I called AHS and they said that whatever they told me before was incorrect and they were sending out the same guy. He came out and fixed the loose wire of the unit. We were having problems where the pool was gurgling and it was making really loud noises coming from the jets. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. The website’s easy to navigate, although it would be a little better if I could give more details versus just choosing from a checkbox. I filed the claim at night and I received a notification immediately, who I have been assigned to. The contractor, Aqua-Brite, called me the next day and they had a technician out a day later, who looked it over.
He had to make a recommendation and get approval from American Home Shield and it took about another four days after that to get the approval and get it scheduled to come out. The pool was not working properly for about six days. And after the tech fixed it, I had to call and had him come back out because he had to get approval to do more work because American Home Shield would not give them the approval to do it the first time. Everything that he did is working very well.
Nevertheless, it would be nice if American Home Shield can select vendors who are closer. The tech had to drive each time close to an hour and a half to get to our house which made it difficult to get things scheduled. There are pool people all over the place and it’s not like it’s a rare thing. They could have relationships with a lot of different companies. My recommendation is to have more relationships with companies versus having one person that’s an hour or two hours away. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield.

We went to make Easter dinner and we turned the oven on to preheat it. My husband smelled smoke so it must have been electrical, so we shut it off, pulled the breaker, and called American Home Shield. Submitting the claim was a really smooth process and the rep said she would have someone out. This was a Sunday and I was told I had to wait until the middle of the week, so I was hoping it will be a little sooner. Then, nobody came and I called and they said that we were on the schedule for the following week so I was not so happy about that. According to Home Shield, that was on Sears' end. They said they couldn’t control when Sears schedule it. But we confirmed the date with the young lady that I spoke with the day that I called it in. So I was positive it was that week I was told but I ended up having to wait another week.
When they showed, they took one look at it and said, “Oh well, it's an electrical issue. It's not our problem.” I had already waited a week longer than I was originally told I would have to and then they said it wasn’t even their problem. I called AHS back. I had the $150 deductible paid before they ever sent anybody out and they did not charge me another $150 for another electrician to come out, which I was thankful for. The electrician came within two days and he was awesome. He fixed the problem within 30 minutes and was gone. My oven hasn’t had any problems since. Apparently, the oven is hardwired into the house and there's a junction box behind it that malfunctioned. We had GE before we got Home Shield come out and repaired these ovens. Whoever put it back and put the electrical back didn’t tap it right. It was shorted out and that was the burning smell we were smelling and that’s why we couldn’t use it.
Also, I had an existing problem with the handles on my stove. I have a double oven and one of them got stuck so I don’t even use it and Sears said that they would order the replacement parts and that they would come the following Friday to fix that. But the handles came several weeks later and until this day, the handles are still here and nobody ever came back to fix them. I don’t necessarily think this is all Home Shield because these were the Sears guys but maybe they're indirectly responsible for their subcontractors. I could probably call Home Shield and tell them those guys were supposed to install these handles and they never did, but something tells me that that’s gonna be another $150 deductible so that’s why I've held off. I don’t think that replacing a couple of handles on a service is worth $150 to me.
We've only used AHS one other time and that was when the air conditioning went out last summer and that contractor seemed to have an attitude about having to fix it. It was almost like I was a bother to him. Other than that, it's good to have a home warranty and so far I don’t think it saved me any money yet, but when something major goes up, I'm hoping that it will. I like AHS so far but they definitely need to do a better policing who they're using.

When I called to put in a claim, American Home Shield sent out Aeon Blue for the pool heater and the individual that was sent out misled us several times. I told AHS that I never want to see them in my house again. It was a huge mess. I was told that this has happened many times. The technician would call and say that he has an emergency and he has to go out of town and that AHS would have to assign this claim to another vendor. The other vendor called me and they knew how it worked. They said Aeon Blue have done this five or six times over the last year because AHS always assigned it to them and I verified that with American Home Shield.
Aeon Blue wound up with it again and so, they came out and told me they have ordered the heater but I’ll have to pay them around $500 to upgrade or to get things up to code. And I told them I am not paying them a dime and that was the end of it. So, I just do not trust Aeon Blue. They just wanted to line their pockets. I’m getting confused because no one really told me exactly what was going on. Long story short, nothing was ever done with my heater. Also, the American Home Shield reps are sometimes good and sometimes bad. It depends on who you get.
AHS would not let me close out that work order and start fresh with a new company. If a second company comes out and says that Aeon Blue has to do that, then I’ll trust them again but not really well. But AHS said they won’t do that so I’m just gonna let it go. I’m done talking with these people. It was horrible. Overall, I normally don’t have issues with AHS and this time, I had issues but it was Aeon Blue’s fault. Still, I am having a hard time with AHS because their app doesn’t work half the time, a lot of times their website is screwed up and their wait time to speak to an individual is very long. They sent some notes out about recommending to call the companies and do a pre-check for the air conditioning unit before the summer got too hot. I logged a ticket online and that was easy to do. The contractor took a couple of days to get here but when he came, he knocked on the door and did the check out, and all was good.

The entire house was backed up so I called American Home Shield. They sent Union Plumbing out and Sean was really nice but their estimate was too high. So I went with another company. The comfort of having a warranty is if anything doesn't work, they can fix it and although the contractor didn't do things correctly, American Home Shield sent a plumber out and did exactly what they said they would do.

Since I've had Home Shield in the last five years, I've had six different visits, including HVAC and plumbing work being done. It was a little difficult to deal with the HVAC person, but with a little push, Home Shield worked and supported me as the account holder and they straightened out the provider to do their job. On a different note, the plumbing in the water closet behind the toilet wasn’t filling up, so I called in and got the email about the plumbing firm. I got a call, and we scheduled the service. The plumber came by, took care of the issue and he did it well. I would definitely recommend Home Shield and I'm renewing with them. I'm very satisfied and since this was my second home now, it's my primary. It was very good to have peace of mind when I was 500 miles away from that home. If there was an issue, it could be taken care of quickly.

The ice maker was not making ice so I put in a claim to American Home Shield a month ago. The contractor came, fixed it and it worked fine but it stopped making ice again last week so I filed another claim. I did it online and it was great navigating the website. It took a couple of days for the contractor to come out and that wasn’t bad. When he got here, he explained what needed to be fixed as well as what needed to be ordered. The ice maker stayed fixed for a couple of weeks then it stopped working and the repair is still in process. A friend of mine had American Home Shield for 15 years and she recommended it. If anybody asks me, I will recommend it and I gave a few people the online AHS so they’re looking into it.

I purchased a condo built in '96 and the American Home Shield warranty was also given to me. A week later, the garage door doesn’t open. I called American Home Shield and the guy was very nice. He said that what they do is fix and fix and fix until they can no longer fix. They sent a contractor to fix the garage door and I paid $75. The contractor tried to do a few other things and oiled the garage door to make sure that it wasn’t so loud. He explained that it is an old system and with it, they’re gonna keep working on it till it no longer works then they’ll replace it. But he also said that I can buy a new garage door for $250 since I have to pay another $75 when he comes out again. And then if he has to come out again after that, it’s gonna be more than $250. So, it’s easier to purchase a new garage door. Nonetheless, he did a good job and the garage door has been working okay. AHS also fixed the air conditioner of which I paid another $75.

I have a main circuit breaker in the garage, and it kept popping every day literally. So daily, I had to go in and reset it. I went online and submitted a claim into the American Home Shield website and pushed it through. I had to follow up with them because it turned out it was not just one breaker that had a problem, it was three. So, it was considered three follow-ups. Speaking with their customer service was great and they were professional. I submitted the claim on a Wednesday, and they were able to get somebody out on Friday. The quick turnaround time makes the difference.
Furthermore, the contractor who came out was awesome. He explained everything to me about what the issue was, why it was happening and it goes down to old age since the system is 10 years old. He said it was normal, but he walked through. He did the work and he was quick. Now, everything works like it's supposed to. AHS should keep doing what they're doing. I would tell others that if they need AHS or if it's an option for them, then get it. It's well worth it.
Good afternoon Pamela,

AHS was very valuable. We’ve used it a few times. The main reason we got it is because our air-conditioning system was getting to be old and we were afraid it was going to go. And the air-conditioning is fine so far. Recently AHS sent #1 R & R Electrical All Stars to fix my garage door opener. My husband filed the claim online and they got someone out in 2 days. The technician was more late than he thought he was gonna be. We live in Clermont, in Florida and it was far away from the previous one he had serviced. And it was like rush hour so it was okay. Other than that he did a great job and was very nice and courteous. We had sold the house and just getting ready to move. So for the few days that we were still there it has been wonderful because we’ve been having several little issues with the door opener and it was all very good.

My husband submits claims online and then he receives a call, whereas I still like to do everything by voice. It gives me affirmation and connection, and I like to explain things thoroughly. We’ve been having difficulties with the last couple of claims. Last time, we had to call twice for the washing machine because it wasn’t repaired and was actually worse. But afterwards, it was a quick clean fix. This time, we’re having a bit more trouble. We had done something with our pool and the light doesn’t come on now, which is major, especially at night. We like to have our light on for safety reasons or for company when we have our little nieces and nephews over. We don’t have very many lights out around the pool so the light is very important.
The tech has come back out twice and the light would flicker but it still doesn’t work. We’ve had to have several callbacks and we’ve tried to handle it with the technician to give them an opportunity to fix what went wrong. But at this point, we don’t know if we should call American Home Shield and tell them what happened. Having to bring the technicians back is one drawback then another one is we don’t know if we'd be getting quality replacements. The light we had before was infinitely better than the one that’s literally hanging on the wall now. The one we had was digital but this is just a piece of plastic garbage. American Home Shield also replaced a disposal before but my husband could have gone and gotten a $60 disposal because that was all they replaced it with.
We were always told that they would replace our stuff with at least the same quality product or better. I at least want them to be people of their word. They have probably saved us a lot of money over the years but we’re also paying a lot into it and I’m sure we’ve made them a lot of money over the years. Nonetheless, I’m glad for having American Home Shield because if something big breaks, we’re covered.

The Service Master Company d.b.a American Home Shield (the "Company") failed to reimburse me for costs related to replacing a broken garbage disposal that was covered under my American Home Shield contract. We were advised by the Company's agent on 6/7/18 that our garbage disposal claim was denied because, in the professional opinion of their contractor, there was a jam in the disposal caused by our negligence. The contractor did not see anything that might have caused the jam, but when he inserted his wrench in the disposal's underside, he found that the grinder was frozen. Therefore, he concluded that the problem was probably caused by a jam of our making. On that unverified basis, our claim was denied.
The following week we had our own contractor replace the "broken" disposal. Following its replacement, the contractor inserted his wrench into its bottom, just as the Company's contractor did, and snapped it quickly with his palm. At that moment, the grinder started to rotate freely. In the opinion of my contractor, the "broken" grinder was most likely caused, not by our negligence, but due to a burned out or frozen motor. The grinder is still in our possession and is available for the Company's further review, if requested. We are now out nearly $500 as a direct result of the Company's contractor's error in judgment. Clearly, the disposal covered by the Agreement was broken and should have been replaced by the Company's contractor when he first examined it. Consequently, we believe that the total cost of our replacing the unit should be covered, as provided for in our Home Protection Plan Agreement.

Updated on 08/09/2018: My AC unit broke down and for over a month it was back and forth with AHS. Then he told me I should just change to a new system but AHS will not cover it so I spent $6350 for a new unit only to discover after 4 trips to my house where the newly installed unit was malfunctioning that the problem with my system was actually the motherboard that was bad.

Please note that when you are being sold on the service of a home warranty they stress how there are no other charges but the service fee of $125... that is a lie. But what's even worse is it took a month for the tank to actually get replaced. When I called in to get and update status the AHS rep would blame a department and or the plumbing company. IF you have problem with AHS then you just out of luck. There is no recourse to be heard or have your concerns resolved. In the end I've been $2400 (premiums) + $125 (service Fee) + $450 (up-charge paid to plumber) = total of $2975 for a hot water tank that I would normally pay $500 (parts and labor).

And then he cut as few as he could and used a camera to try to find everything, to not have to rip more of my wall up than he had to. He took pictures, showed them to me and explained everything. They found out that there was no leak even though we were hearing the water. Somebody had jerry-rigged some piping and it’s not causing any water damage. I think the people who lived there before did their own little fix-up there and it’s not causing any problems. The thing is, normally when there’s a leak, you can feel the difference in the wall because they get soggy or it gets warm. But there was never any of that, It was just weird. The technician told me that AHS was going to call me back to fix the two holes in the wall because that was covered.
However, I’ve not heard back from anyone. I'm honestly terrible about checking my voicemail, but I’ve not received any emails either. He's awesome so we always ask for him. But we had gone through three plumbers before we got him.
One of the first jobs that we had American Home Shield come and try to do was an absolute nightmare. The plumber said that we had to cut a massive hole in our wall and after he did that, he said he couldn't do the job anymore. The plumber that we use now, pretty much exclusively, said that he didn't need that at all because he could do everything through the tank. This plumber has been great and I would recommend him to all my friends. He says straight up if he can do the job or not.
We also had to try and get American Home Shield to get someone to repair the wall but they only did the minimum amount. First, I had to get a contractor out to cut a hole in the wall. American Home Shield paid for the drywall and for a very rough finish. But I had to pay for the rest of the finishing and the repainting. American Home Shield didn’t wanna come to the party at all even though the problem was because one of their plumbers didn’t assess the job properly. And from the time that I first called to the actual time of the final lick of paint getting put on, it was 10 months. Dealing with American Home Shield has been a painful experience. In fact, when we had another plumbing issue, I called another plumber to come out instead of getting American Home Shield even though we’ve paid for the insurance. AHS had another company that worked on my AC unit and they were more responsive, much faster, and much more thorough. In fact, it was the original company they had that told me that I needed a new breaker. And since it was not covered, I went ahead and paid for it. But the fact that they found it and nobody else had, I was impressed. Other than that, as long as your issue isn't your air conditioner, AHS is great. I have been with them since I moved into the house and so far, their reps have been very good and very responsive.

My fridge wasn't getting cold and one of the oven's burners wasn't working and the door fell out. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. I spoke with a rep and the interaction went well. They asked for the best time and then they submitted a schedule. It was quick and easy. Exclusive Appliance Repair gave a window, went out there and were great. They were professional and got the job done. That was the most important part. They fixed the door thing really quickly and for the fridge, they had to order a part and had that fixed the following week. American Home Shield is worth it if the new house you bought has appliances in it and you're not sure if they're gonna be functioning 100%.
We are happy to know that you are overall pleased with AHS Benjamin. Thanks for sharing your AHS warranty experience. Have a great week.

My dishwasher went out and I didn’t have a problem with Home Shield. It was just a problem with the vendor that they sought out. One came out there and said there wasn’t anything wrong with the dishwasher. I turned it on after he left and put it on with the full cycle work and then it stopped filling up water again. So it never was fixed. I called Home Shield and they sent another service person out there and he saw it and he said, "We’ll order a part." It took a few days. He came back out with the part that they ordered
My old dishwasher is so outdated. The part didn’t fit so he tried it and everything, but it wouldn’t work at all. Other than that, I didn’t have a bad experience. It just took so long. The dishwasher came in and they’re gonna have to bring it out on September 28. I’ve been with them since I bought the home and embraced it because I don’t have to spend a whole lot of money. My AC messed up one time and just thinking about having Home Shield, I wouldn’t pay out of my pocket $800 to $2,000.

My washing machine broke and I needed to get it repaired. I submitted the claim by phone and did the automated system. Then I got a callback saying someone would contact me regarding my washer. The contractor that came was fine. The only problem was the contractor didn't recommend that the washing machine be fixed because the bearings went out. But American Home Shield wanted to fix it and started to order the parts for the machine. Eventually, the contractor had to call the service department to tell that they weren’t gonna fix the machine ‘cause it wasn’t worth their time. It took two weeks for them to figure out what they wanted to do, either repair it or replace it. And they finally did it, but two weeks later, I’m still without a washing machine. I had to go to a wash house to wash my clothes, which was unusual. I haven’t done that in years. But I’ll get my washing machine next week. I just got in contact with the person to deliver it.

About a month and a half ago, I called American Home Shield about my icemaker that had stopped working. They said that Airboss Mechanical was gonna be the contractor that was gonna be dealing with the case. They should be reaching out to me within 24 hours. But Airboss Mechanical has been late on contacting me within 24 hours. I’ve had a difficult time getting a hold of them throughout the process. Eventually, they came out and they looked at the ice maker. Their technician said he would order a new part and he did. Then they came out and fixed it. He then said to wait for 24 hours and it should start working. But it didn't start working, so I went to American Home Shield and I put in on the ticket that it wasn’t working, that I needed to reopen the ticket. They sent me a text saying that Airboss would be contacting me within 24 hours.
A week went by and nothing happened. American Home Shield was fine up until that point because I reached out and told them that I would like to talk to somebody about my case. I was put on hold two consecutive times for around 45 minutes, with the latter time being hung up on. So I reached out to them again, trying to see what I could do. My mom’s a realtor and she put me in contact with them initially. She knew somebody there that could help move things along and they were able to get Airboss back. They looked at it again and said it's something to do with the optics in the ice maker. Long story short, they had to order some parts and I got a call from American Home Shield to let me know that they ordered the parts and that they should be reaching out to me.
Overall, I haven't been able to contact Airboss unless the technician calls me directly. And if I miss their call, I would have to call them back and they wouldn't pick it up. So that’s obviously kind of frustrating. It would have been okay if American Home Shield had been golden throughout the entire process. But them putting me on hold for a total of an hour and a half makes things rough. During those times when Airboss would have to come over and check it out, I worked from home. And the more times that they have to come out, that means that more times I’m out of the office and out of work times. I would have them rather give a thorough inspection of the fridge to begin by saying what the exact issue is. It just seems like Airboss, as a service provider has just been poor. And that kind of reflects poorly on American Home Shield.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my water heater online and the website is straightforward, easy to navigate and put in your information. The water heater was making a loud boom sound so clearly we knew that something was wrong and then all of a sudden it stopped giving us hot water. So the technician came out and said that, "Oh, because of a connection of something on top of the water heater, debris got in there and that's what causes the water heater to malfunction" which didn’t make a lot of sense to me. That’s all the details he gave me.
He said, "We have a special on new water heater because you kind of need a new water heater and we ask special on that." I said, “What do you mean the connection? Because the water that’s in there was put in by an American Home Shield contractor. So you’re telling me that American Home Shield is not gonna cover something with my water heater and if something is wrong with the connection?" So now we have a problem. This guy was not really trying to hear that. He was just trying to sell me the special on him putting in a new water heater and us having to pay for it because he didn’t even give American Home Shield a report yet and he’s saying, “They’re not gonna cover it.” It was really bad.
I’m actually still dealing with this. But I have young kids in the home and I’m now dealing with having cold water. We’re going into the second week of not having hot water and this is an emergency situation because I have young kids in my home so I had another plumber to put in the water heater. I spoke back with American Home Shield so they sent another contractor out because once I explained the damage, they went back and look in their records that indeed AHS did put that water heater out and it was one of their contractors so if there was something wrong, it wasn’t us. The contractor that put it in was no longer contracted with American Home Shield so they sent out another contractor. They came and looked at it and said, “Well, we can fix it. We just need to order parts.”
All of a sudden again, it can be fixed but the first contractor who came out said we needed a new water heater. So in order to fix it, they had to order these parts. We're still having cold water during all this time. I was microwaving water to feed my kid. It's ridiculous. I was like, "Well, I can’t wait any longer. I have to get a new water heater." That’s when I had another licensed plumber to come in and give me a new water heater. American Home Shield was like, "We're only gonna pay for the parts that the second person said." I said, "No way. You guys gonna pay for the whole water heater." I have a new water heater but I still haven’t heard back from AHS. They sent me a check $412 for parts that would have fixed the old water heater but I will not cash that check because they need to pay me for what I paid for the water heater.
I’m really surprised at how this whole water heater thing turned out because we’ve been with American Home Shield since I’ve had my house in 1999 and I've had great service with them prior to this. Especially, once they acknowledged and knew that, "Yes, it was our contractor who put in your water heater that's now faulty" and they knew it was an emergency situation. I have kids in the house, and all I have is cold water. I’ve had good experience with AHS and would have recommended it to anyone especially new home buyers, even existing home buyers. It’s worth it. But with this past experience, I don't know if I would renew my contract. You may wanna look at another home warranty program.
Good afternoon Stacy,
I understand that you have multiple concerns that need to be addressed regarding the water heater repairs that need to be completed and the cash in leiu offered. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

My garbage disposal wouldn’t disintegrate the foodstuff and it wouldn’t go down. I submitted my claim with AHS online and their site was very user-friendly. The contractor who came was prompt and very courteous. He was also very quick in diagnosing and fixing the problem. The contractors have been great but American Home Shield itself sucks. The disposal was my third rodeo with AHS. And it seems as though they always try to fix the problem, but if it's a very high-dollar item, they make up excuses and don’t wanna do it. There's never a replacement and it's always patching something up, patching it up, and patching it up. And if you belong to them for a while and have given $59 every month, by two years you can pay for several items.
When my air conditioner went out, I was given $700 but it was for the air handler. They said that they had given me the difference of the air handler. My house is 3,600 square feet and I needed two units for it. I had to put two brand new units but they only gave me about ¾ of what it cost. Plus, when you change the air handler, you need to change the condenser outside too and they weren’t willing to do that. They were just willing to patch it up and there was gonna be problem after problem.
When I was in my other home, I had a refrigerator problem. And they never fixed it. They would always patch it up and I always had to give them $75. It seemed to me that that’s the business. They had to come out here and get the deductible. If they say they're gonna do something, they need to live up to it. If they fixed the problem the first time, then that’s fine. But if they come two or three times with the same problem, just replace the item. I had a bad experience with them back in the late 90’s and I joined them back again. I had gotten them because it makes me and my wife feel good. But if there was something else out there, I would absolutely cancel. But I'm still holding on to them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

When I called AHS the first time, a rep gave me a list of contractors and told me that I could pick off from that. Once I found a company, I discarded that list. However, that company never came and never called back. Finally, AHS cancelled the order and set me up with someone else. Then I called in and told the lady that the first two vendors referred to us had a terrible rating when I googled them. It’s my house and my stuff, and I don’t want someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing or has bad ratings coming out and working on them. So I asked her to give me the list of people that could do the service. But this time, the lady said that they do not give out that information. She then said that I could contact the companies on my own, but they would only cover their list of providers. I told her that I understood that, but I just wanted to pick which contractor from their list to put me with.
She had no idea what I was talking about and she wouldn't transfer me to anybody else, and we had a little bit of a language barrier. If the person doesn't understand what you're asking, they should be courteous enough to move you on to someone else. When I asked for a supervisor or somebody that I could talk to, she just said that she understood what I was asking.
We finally got someone that would come out for the plumbing and electrical issue with our pool. They fixed the plumbing and the electrical piece. But the whole point of having them replace the leak was so that no air could be sucked in. They took care of the visible leak. But it’s still sucking in air from somewhere because they just repaired the part instead of replacing it. Clearly, something wasn’t done right because the jets were still having air bubbles come out. We need to have the company come back and finish resolving it. But I'm not paying another $75 to have someone come back for the same job that I already paid to have done.
American Home Shield is not a terrible company. They’ve been nice to me. The first lady I talked to was amazing. She was super informative and helpful. She didn’t make me feel like she had to take another call and got to phone me immediately and she answered all my questions. However, the list of providers that I got from them do not have very good ratings and when they come out and do a half-off to a job, you have to pay if they’re gonna come back and finish it. And we already paid $800 for the policy. So overall, I would not refer AHS at this point.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Navigating through their website was easy, but trying to talk with somebody sucked. There was no chat line on there and a lot of the questions that I needed to ask weren’t answered, so I had to call and when I did, it took at least 45 minutes to get a response. Then, nine times out of ten, the people who answered the phone didn’t speak English very well and I had to repeat stuff over and over again.
It's a hit or miss with AHS. I’ve had them for a long time, but when something breaks down, they spend a lot of time putting duct tape on it instead of fixing or replacing it and there's the hassle and the fiasco, like with my AC unit. It smells like mold and mildew, and it always leaks water, and it should have been replaced a long time ago because my electric bill sucks and it doesn’t stay cold. The repair guys kept coming out repeatedly for work orders for it, and that was rather frustrating. But the contractor, Judd’s AC and Refrigeration, that worked on my AC was amazing. I was travelling and my family never told me. When I came back, I decided to follow up on that and AHS said the warranty for six months had already expired. So I had to pay for another $75 and the tech came to look at the microwave. He said a fuse blew up. When the new transformer was put in, there was also a change of fuse.
The tech came back in about a week’s time to replace the fuse but then the fuse blew up again. That was when he decided it wasn't fixable. He had to get AHS to give me a new one then he installed it. But I have Samsung everything in the house and I was given a Kenmore. That caused a whole mess up of appliances in my house. Nonetheless, having a warranty is very much valuable. I like it and I'm willing to continue to pay. I paid $502 for the year and even just one microwave, I’ve almost used up the whole premium I paid for the year. The warranty is definitely something I save money on so it's very important to get it.

We've filed five different claims with American Home Shield. We bought a 20-year-old house in Charleston last summer and the air conditioner is gone. American Home Shield has been extremely responsive and very good in sending contractors out. But with the people that they hire, it’s always one thing breaks and then something else breaks. For example, they replaced the switch, and then the next week, there’s something else that goes bad. When they go there, they do a patchwork and put a band-aid on a dam that’s falling apart. Also, American Home Shield sent different AC companies and some of them didn't even have a telephone number to call so you can't talk to them and discuss. It’s between the AC company and the insurance company.
American Home Shield would also not replace the AC until somebody tells them that the unit is gone. Of course, whoever goes there is not gonna tell them that because they want to come and charge them to fix it. I told American Home Shield that it's gone and we need to take the cost half and half. I also said that they're wasting money and effort by sending people. But they told me that unless somebody from the people they've sent says that the AC is totally shot, they will not replace it. So, they're gonna waste money and my time and patience until it's really bad, and then they'll replace the AC. American Home Shield must have the contractors be more responsible.

We purchased AHS for our 30 year old home three years ago. Consistently, every summer one or both of our ac units blew out a compressor or had a freon leak. On 6/10/18, our downstairs unit started making loud banging noise. It was cooling fine but obviously the noise was a concern. Technician from Iceman came out on 6/12, proceeded to disconnect the breaker because the coils were frozen and turned the ac to “heat” to “warm the coils”. He failed to advise our adult son what he had done and just said he would return Fri to finish the job. When we got home, the downstairs temp was 98. Ouside temp 106. Fri Iceman was a no-show and AHS claimed their network was down so they couldn’t address our concerns.
The following TUESDAY, Moore AC came out and advised we had a freon leak but he wasn’t authorized to repair it by AHS just assess the issue. On Wed, AHS once again claimed computer issues but they would submit ticket to address my concerns. Today, 8 days later, Fri 6/22, 112 outside and Top Notch AC said I need new air handler, compressor, thermostat and circuit breaker. Since it’s Fri, I shouldn’t expect to hear if AHS authorizes replacement until next week! At $58 a month for 3 years, I could’ve almost bought a new ac and not dealt with dolt contractors AHS sent. Extreme heat warnings in Phx next 4 days and AHS is useless to help rectify the matter.

Our AC broke in 90 degree weather, and it will take a week for a service contractor to even come out and look at it. I spent half a day chasing down the service request to get a contractor assigned, and was told several different reasons why it was assigned, was not assigned, could not be assigned. In the interim, the service provider could not book the appointment, and was filling up and pushing ours out.
Calling back was on hold for long time, was told the system was updating and was hung up on, and finally asked to be transferred to a supervisor and never was. The Contractor had to call to finally get the ticket assigned. When I called back later and then used the online chat feature to ask how to escalate or complain, I was told complaints can only be made in writing to a PO Box. In my opinion that is terrible customer service, and a lack of care for your customer.

What a joke. My ac air handler unit is 30 yrs old. (They don't sell the coils for it anymore) so they want to replace it for an out of pocket expense to me of $1200. The ac unit is 20 yrs old. So if I fix the air handler unit then the compressor goes out, which is on its last leg, that will be another nightmare with AHS. Instead of doing the common sense and good business practice of replacing the whole system they want me to cough up a ton of money instead of them replacing a unit that is only going to cost their customer money time and time again. I have requested a cash out on this and was (unofficially informed they may offer me $400 to $500 to pay it out) when if I have to pay a new air handler unit it's at least $2000 with labor etc.
The last message they read by me: their response was they going to contact me to see about resolving this matter. HAHAHAHA. Avoid me and no contact. I should have went with Select Home Warranty or any other company. Maybe I wouldn't have been ripped off so bad so fast. $75 service call to tell me I need to spend another $1200. What a joke and I've still got months to go on my contract and have buy a new AC unit.
Who in their right mind would put that kind of money into something that old. If they are unwilling to pay for a unit that has one part 20 yrs old and another part 30 years old, well if you have any common sense find another company. Long as they can make parts if even out of clay, they are not getting you a new AC unit. I believe they only replaced 3-5 units out 2000 calls for AC problems. Look at the numbers and see what side of the pyramid scheme they're in on. THEY ARE A RIP OFF AND ARE COMPLETE FOR PROFIT SCREW THE CUSTOMER COMPANY.

The contractor did a whole analysis on everything, looked at the problem, gave some suggestions on how to fix it and ordered the parts. And when the parts came back, he promptly returned and fixed the air conditioning 'cause being without air in Florida is kinda hot, so he was always present. However, it took a couple of visits because there were other issues with the unit but the contractor saw it through completion.
I'm sure to renew the warranty next year and if anyone would have more than seven appliances, I'd recommend to get AHS. The air conditioning alone could've been thousands of dollars to have fixed. Not to mention the time also to find a contractor and the out-of-pocket to get all that done.

I was having problems with my air conditioning unit. It wasn't getting cold so American Home Shield sent Airmax and they ruled that it was the compressor. We had to wait a week for the compressor to come in. And when the compressor came in, they came out to fix the compressor. It was not even by the weekend and it was completely out again. Nothing was working. So I called back and told them, "Hey, my AC is not working again, they just came out and fixed the compressor." When they came back out to assess, he said, "Oh, your fan is gone now. We have to repair the fan." And I said, "Okay. Well, is that something you could do because you have noticed when you guys came out and assessed it the first time, that if the compressor was going, the fan was gonna go too."
So he came back out and said, "Yeah, I have this on my truck." I said, "Because I can't tolerate it, I waited a whole week for you guys to come out to fix it the first time. Then only for it to go back out within like four days." So then he fixed it and they told me there was a $75 service charge. I said, "That's not right. Because it was due to the unit not working." I also said, "So, are you're gonna be coming back every four days if something else goes wrong with the unit? That's something you should've caught when you came out to assess it, right? Why am I being charged another $75 because that's the same $75 I have to pay."
It's not that he shouldn't get paid for replacing the fan. I said, "That's between you and home warranty. That's not between you and me." The only thing I was supposed to do was pay $75 which I paid the first time he came out. I said, "Now, that's the same problem." He said, "Well, it's a different problem." I said I was telling them something was going on with the unit and all of that is tied together, like the compressor and fan.
The contractor fixed it and said I gotta call the home warranty first to tell them what was going on and that he was gonna replace it. I said, "Okay." So then I called home warranty, I said that I shouldn't have to pay a $75 service charge and she said, "No. Don't worry about it. You don't have to pay that. It's between us and the contractor." So I said, "Okay, fine." So then I got home and got a bill in the mail for $75. So I called and said, "Hey, I'm getting this bill for $75 charge that I shouldn't be charged for that second call that they had to come back out to fix my unit."
The rep said he was sending it up to get expedited to get the $75 off. And everything is good right now. David the technician that came out, was great. I have no problems with them. It's just that confusion that came in with the $75 service charge. I also would really like for them to have some more 24-hour places for emergency purposes, like for an air condition unit because it's 100 degrees outside. No parts have to be ordered some time but I just feel like sometimes, it needs to be expedited a little faster for the customers.

I was having problems with the toilet so I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. However, the rep was very rude. She doesn’t think that it’s a plumbing issue and that it’s not covered. She was also telling me that if the technicians come, they wouldn't fix it. But the guy they sent out did an excellent job. He introduced himself when he came in. I told him what the problem was and he went over and spotted the problem right away. He knew what he was doing and within 20 minutes, he was out of my house and the problem was fixed. I've been with American Home Shield for 12 years. This is the first incident I've ever had somebody talk to me that way over the phone, but all the other times, it has been great and I still recommend AHS.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling so I called the 800 number that American Home Shield gave me. The contractor they sent was excellent. He went out of his way to help us. We’re old and he was very nice. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He did everything without any hesitation. The air conditioner is still working now and I’m hoping it stays that way.

When I bought the house for my daughter and her children, it had a Trane Air Conditioner in it. Then, American Home Shield replaced it with what looked like a cheap jukebox. And when that unit went out last summer, we had a lot of problems where AHS had to send somebody out to work on it. The people who showed up to do the service were sloppy and when they put the air conditioner back together, they didn’t put all the screws in and lost some. Then I decided to replace it with another Trane unit for which I spent a little over $6000. I know that six years down the road, AHS will have to replace it again but they will go with something that is a whole lot cheaper to replace it with and that's the thing that bothers me the most.
I have thought about dropping AHS several times and I didn’t like some of the people that they sent out because they didn’t know what they were doing. Several years ago, one of the breaker boxes kept blowing in the house. AHS sent an electrician out who said that it had two small breaker boxes in there. But the house was built back in the 60s and there had been no trouble with the thing that I had there for a long time. To make a long story short, I paid about $80 to get a qualified electrician out and he said that the first guy was wrong. What I got is a 3 amp but the guy that AHS sent out put in a two amp which wasn’t big enough to carry the load. So, the electrician went ahead and put in another 3 amp in there which cost me more money. Other than that, I recently called AHS because the air conditioning unit was low on Freon. They sent out Coast Mechanical, LLC and since then, my daughter and her children were so glad it was cooling again.

I had a problem with my refrigerator and washing machine. I initially filed my claims online on my phone with American Home Shield for both appliances which is what I do 99% of the time. But I was having a hard time doing that so I called my claims in. It became confusing with the whole service call from start to end. AHS probably have two different calls based on two different appliances, so, even if my claims went to the same place, there was a lot of confusion about what people were coming out for. To me, it seemed like a simple thing but it wound up becoming a much more difficult one.
American Home Shield sent a guy out the first time to work with me on my refrigerator. He argued with me about what was covered in my policy but I told him that I called AHS, they made the appointment, they sent you him, and I paid the service fee. Then he wanted me to start paying cash upfront. I didn't know what he was up to but every red flag in my head went off. Then, halfway through, he told me he was leaving. But I told him that he had to finish the job. Then he told me that parts were missing from my ice maker and I had to deal with it. But I'm in a wheelchair and I couldn't do that. And my husband doesn't do mechanical.
This technician also seemed to get emotional and very passionately upset about the whole thing. When he was arguing with me, I told him that all he had to do was finish his little report then American Home Shield will get back with me and I’ll handle whatever issues there are with them. It has always been that way and if there was an issue, I'd call American Home Shield and it was always been settled. So, I had extremely positive reactions with my American Home Shield contract but I had a very bad reaction with this contractor.
I called American Home Shield afterwards, told them that I was very upset with what happened, and that I didn't want those people out in my home again. Just in Time sent in new people to fix the two units and they were sweet and professional. I worked with Just in Time the last couple of times and they’ve been amazing. Apparently, the first contractor must have taken the missing parts out and put them on top of the drawer. One of the guys from Just in Time found them and fixed the problem. He even brought me a bottle of water when he saw me struggling to get up and that was the extra step they didn’t have to do, by any means.
I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years now and I've tried to sell them to three of my neighbors. Having AHS is almost like having a savings account. You pay them $70 every month and eventually, you’re gonna use it. The warranty is a security blanket and something that you hang on to. Every once in a while, I’ve had an issue which was not done 100% to my satisfaction but after 20 years, I’ve had a lot of claims that have gone through and that's nice. I’ve also had the thing where the air conditioner was mostly covered but if you have $1000, you’d pay for yourself.

We bought the house and when I turned on the AC unit, there was water leaking out into the garage from the furnace area so we called American Home Shield. They sent Comfort King out. They came out a few times and these guys are funny. They wanted me to cut off part of my ceiling in the garage, take all the door frame off and I’m like, “What are we doing this for, for a drip pan?” They said the drip pan was bad and was gonna have to be replaced.
I talked to a friend of mine who has done AC forever and he’s retired now. I said, “Wait. Why did they want me to cut part of my ceiling and door frame out for?” He tells me what should be done and he said those contractors were just trying to replace my entire unit when it doesn’t need to be replaced. Another contractor we spoke with in between talking with AHS said, “Oh, this is a scam that was going on for years. They will tell you, you needed all these repairs. It replaces your entire unit. Then they will take the paperwork done to the city and claim the energy efficient upgrade in their name using your address and get a $5,000 to $6,000 rebate from the city."
He also said these scams shut down a whole lot of air-conditioning repair companies and the contractor was trying to run the same scam. But I’ve had AHS in the past when I own a house in Texas and they were great. So I don’t think it’s American Home Shield but the contractor himself. I think it’s, number one, the area because it’s a military town so the contractors think they can just rip the military off all day long. According to the city of Lawton this has been going on for quite a bit so I’m on guard.
The other contractor that came by for the second opinion one was great. He said everything my buddy said, “Oh, yeah. All you have to do is replace the drip pan and you need a condenser too.” And he was in and out of here in 20 minutes. The air conditioner is still not fixed because he gotta order the condenser. He’s gonna make the drip pan and I’m not his only customer. But he said, "I get a lot of this second opinion." Somebody else is not doing their job. So I don’t think it’s American Home Shield because they’re a massive company. They can’t go by every contractor in every town and spy on them.
Good afternoon Alarik,
After reading your review, I understand that you have multiple concerns that need to be addressed regarding the contractors dispatched to you and the AC repairs that need to be completed. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

They were set to come within a couple of days and they showed up. They were very professional and they did a great job. They got it done in great time too.

We had an issue on the AC in my other house and when I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I did it over the phone and it wasn’t too bad. The reps were very nice and the contractor was there in 24 hours. He did a good job and it went very well. That house has been sold but we have AHS in our new house.

The contractor is doing what they can to get my water heater leak claim resolved. I called AHS to submit that claim and it was very good with the representative I spoke with. I've always had good dealings with AHS and they always try to help me resolve whatever problem I have. They're also timely and courteous. All the contractors that they've sent out have done a very good job. I've never had to have them come back to redo anything.
I had one complaint a year or so ago about a faucet that was installed and the man didn't help me out at all. He was very rude and I told American Home Shield about it at that time and they sent somebody else out who did the job fabulously. That was the only incident that I had since I've been a member of American Home Shield. I would recommend them. I've recommended my brother before to them and he was very happy too.

I am very pleased with American Home Shield. On and off, I have been with them for over 30 years. Recently, I had an air conditioning issue. I purchased a new home and the AC was not serviced properly when it was installed. It was undercharged and it didn’t have sufficient Freon. I submitted my claim and it was seamless. I initially called because it was a home buyer’s policy and not a consumer policy, and I wanted to know if I had to wait 30 days with a new purchase or if it was active. I was pleased to hear that I could use it that same day. The representative explained to me my coverage and I upgraded my policy to the premium coverage. The rep was courteous, very knowledgeable about the product and also very concerned with trying to get me somebody as soon as possible.
I had multiple contractors who came out and they were all very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They did clean and neat work. Unfortunately, it turns out that the AC has a manufacturer warranty issue and I've been having a nightmare with the warranty rep that they’ve been sending me. It’s been on and off for two weeks now. The fellow keeps changing the arrival time and I’ve not been able to get it completely finished. If I could use Home Shield’s contractor to do the work, I would. But because everything is under warranty, that was a hurdle that I wasn’t ready for. I also had a dishwasher leak and I called on that as well with Home Shield, and that also turned out to be a manufacturer warranty issue. Nevertheless, I’m a huge advocate of American Home Shield. Whenever I have a co-worker stating that they’re gonna buy a home, I tell them to make sure that they have AHS.

We have three air conditioning units and one of them that controls the upstairs of our house wasn’t cooling, even though the fan was running. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for that. Then I spoke to someone from Airtronics on the phone to schedule. And then I spoke with the technician and he called when he was on his way to my residence. It was the first time that Airtronics had responded to an HVAC issue with our house, but they came promptly and the communication was very good. Their technician was very professional and very experienced. He knew exactly what the problem was, diagnosed it very quickly, and he replaced the capacitor expediently. He also explained what he was doing and it was easy for me to follow along. He was fantastic. And since the repair, the AC has worked fine. This is, by far, one of the best experiences I've had with HVAC contractors.
I've had issues in the past where the contractors that AHS sent have been less than honest, claiming a huge issue and complete replacement of my HVAC system as an example. I complained to AHS about the contractor and was looking for feedback as to ensure that that contractor wouldn't do the same thing to other people. But I received no feedback at all. After that bad experience with them, I looked at their online reviews and found out that the company had been receiving negative feedback for quite some time and AHS continued to use them. Anyone looking into AHS should read the contract early to know exactly what they’re covering. Also, even if you have upgraded the nice appliances, they will only replace one with a very bare-bones low-quality appliance and even if you offer to pay the upgrade, that’s not an option with their contract.

I go online at American Home Shield to submit claims and it's easy to do. I made a claim for tap and the toilet, and it was a quick fix. I went online for another claim and they could not find service for air conditioning especially within my area so that is a problem. I could find somebody and then go through a whole process of me paying them and getting my money back, but it would involve the contractor that I hired. If I didn’t have to have the contractor give out a call and do whatever needed to be done, that would make it a lot easier.

I've been with American Home Shield since October and I had a very poor experience with them. Submitting the claim was painless and easy. It was very quick and straightforward. The food trap or the little indent in the bottom of the dishwasher was holding water, so it wasn’t draining completely. I thought that it needed to be snaked out. But the contractors did not do anything to fix problem and said, “That’s normal. That’s what's supposed to happen.” So I felt like I wasted my money for nothing.

I told American Home Shield that the AC did not work and they sent somebody over. The contractor was working three hours fixing it, and after three hours that he left, an hour later it broke. And the problem was we have a baby here, and the baby was sweating, and I had to put ice on his clothing. And I called them and they said, “Okay. You have to call the company." They were going to send somebody in two days. I said, “I need somebody now.” Two days later they sent two guys. The guy said, “Well, I need to order a part.” I asked, “How long will it take?” He said, “At least 10 days, eight days minimum.” So, I called my company and I said, “Look, you know what I’m canceling you. You’re the worst company ever.” And I did.
The service is really bad. The service is extremely bad. If you have to call they put you on hold for an hour. It happened to me once that they put me on hold for an hour and they never called me back. I hang up. I have never seen a company that is so poorly managed. I’m in business myself if I would’ve done this to my client they would fire me in a heartbeat.
Good afternoon Alon,
I understand your concerns with the non covered cost that was quoted to have your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address those concerns.
