We had a leaky faucet and we filed a claim with American Home Shield online but we didn’t hear anything very quickly so we called them to follow up. We then set up their contractor to come on a Wednesday and the technician was very professional and courteous. He shared the experiences that he's had with certain repairs that were similar to ours. But he had to come back so he gave us a timeline when he would be back and adhered to it. He did everything he said he could do and would do for us. And everything worked out fine. American Home Shield is basically an insurance policy and other than the $75 copay, everything else is good.

My husband and I purchased a house and the previous owner had American Home Shield so we just transferred their warranty into our name. Submitting a claim was simple and easy. Our AC was working but it wasn't blowing cold air. I didn't know exactly what was wrong with it so I just checked every box that applied to it. Then the contractors were quick at responding and scheduling a time to come out. I submitted the request at 11:00 at night and we had been picked up by 12:00 midnight. The repairs have been fine and the contractors were nice. Everything that we’ve done with AHS has been positive.

My friend who has been using AHS told me about them. She used them when her A/C broke down and she was impressed with them. So, I signed up and I started having AHS since this January. Recently, I submitted a claim for a stove repair online and it was easy. Then the contractor that they sent out was timely, polite, and always responded whenever I contacted them. Since the repair, the stove's performance is about 80% because there's still a burner that doesn’t work. But I'm not using a lighter to light the stove up anymore. I use the automated lighter of the stove now and that makes things safer. Other than that, it was my first time using AHS and I was impressed with the ease of getting the claim in and contacting the repair professional.

It's been a really good experience with American Home Shield. I've had one service call. I have a heat pump, which is for heating and cooling, and it wasn’t turning off. I'd have the thermostat set to auto, and it wouldn’t kick off when it hit a certain temperature. It was having a really hard time cooling the house. So I put in the claim online to AHS and they sent out Total Quality Heating and Air. The contractor came out and said that it was just a part of the heat pump that communicated to the thermostat that was welded shut, so he had the part and just replaced it. It was all done within half an hour from the time he showed up. It was super fast. Since the repair, everything's good and they're working. AHS is doing pretty well. It was a really quick turnaround time and a really good contractor as well. And he was informative and helpful too. I'd tell others to go for AHS as I also took the recommendation from a friend to get it.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was fine. They were really quick and they gave the claim out to the plumber people, then they called me. The only problem I’ve had is the one I’m having now with my refrigerator. My problem is not American Home Shield but the appliance people they used. It was three weeks yesterday since I’ve had a refrigerator. I called in the afternoon and said my refrigerator wasn’t working, so American Home Shield called the appliance people. They called me later that day and said the people couldn’t get there until Monday. And on Monday, at the time they came, I didn’t hear anybody knock and they never called. But the guy took time to take a picture to prove he was there and took off. He didn’t wait very long and didn’t knock very loud.
So, I had to wait until Wednesday for them to come. They came and the guy said that I needed a part that’s gone and that they'll take care of it. I waited and got a call the next day, on Thursday, saying that they will be coming for it next Thursday afternoon. I said that I have a doctor’s appointment, so they said it will be Friday morning. On Friday morning, I sat there and when I called, they said that I was scheduled for that afternoon. All it was is another technician who showed up and said that I need that part plus another part. I called American Home Shield and they said that until they get a new part, they can’t do anything.
I tried calling on Monday, but I couldn’t get through to American Home Shield and I didn’t wanna wait on the phone that long. I called yesterday, which is three weeks, and they said that they would have to report on Tuesday. They said that when the part comes in, they’ll give me a call. But by the time they get the part, it’ll be another week and I’m going on vacation for a couple of weeks, so it’ll be August before I get my refrigerator.
Still, the problem isn’t American Home Shield. They’ve been very good. I had a dishwasher that didn’t work and they sent somebody out twice. My plumbing issues have been fixed promptly. It’s just that the refrigerator is a problem and it’s the appliance company they have that’s the problem. I would recommend American Home Shield. For the first year of ownership, it has been really helpful and I’m glad that I had it. I didn’t have to pay for leaks and drains that were plugged up.

I did two collect claims with American Home Shield. One was for the gas on the stovetop that wasn't staying lit and the other was for the leak under my sink. Submitting the claims online was easy and quick. When I called the plumbing company, they knew exactly who I was and what I needed taken care of. They got here in two days and since the repair I've had no problems at all. AHS does professional work and provides quick communication. This is my first time owning a home and having homeowners' insurance, and has been great.

My AC broke down last May 19 and when I called American Home Shield, they said that I cannot do anything before July 7. So I called my realtor and I told them that we bought the house in April, so I asked them why could I not call about anything before July. The realtor called someone, fixed the issue and then they told me that I could now call the home warranty. I called AHS on May 25th and the contractor came to my place on May 28 to look at the problem. The contractor said that the compressor was not working and that it would take 10 to 12 days to get the compressor with approval. He said the five days was for him to check for approval and another five days for the compressor to come. But it was after 15 days that the contractor came back to my place with the compressor. Then, he said that something was burnt and he needed to fix it. So, he came the next day and he changed a part and the AC started working.
And then after 15 minutes, the guy said that the compressor was not taking that much load or pressure so, he needed to change the compressor. He told me that now, they didn't need to involve a warranty company. They will expedite the process and it will be quicker than the last time. But it was after eight days that he placed the new compressor. The AC started working but again, after a few days, the same problem happened. I called the home warranty and then the contractor came and said that he has fixed the problem and then left. But on Saturday, June 30, the whole day until night time, the temperature was from 90 degrees and then to 84 degrees. Still, the AC did not become soundly fixed, which we set at 76, so my husband called back AHS.
On July 2nd, the contractor came back on a Monday. He was supposed to come between 8 AM to 11 AM, but nobody came. So I called AHS and they said that another guy was coming. The guy came and he told me that the compressor and something in the attic were both not working. Despite that, the people from AHS listened to me and answered whenever I called. But that office is very small and even though the compressor is a common part of AC, it takes 10 to 12 days to come. It's 92 degrees inside my home and today, my AC is still not fixed. I could recommend AHS to others but it's time to fix the problem.

A part in our air conditioner went out during the time we had an excessive heat advisory. We came home from out of town and our house was already at 89 degrees and we have three small children and a dog. We then very quickly called American Home Shield and let them know what was going on. The person I spoke with the first time was fantastic because at first, she said that it’ll be 48 hours but when I explained the urgency behind it, she contacted two separate companies in my area to see if one can confirm that they would come out the same day. And she kept me on the line for that. That was fantastic.
And a company ended up coming out that evening. The gentleman from the company that was here was able to very quickly determine the part that was needed to be replaced and he had it on his truck. Then, he was able to fix the unit in less than five minutes. However, the warranty was like, “We have to have the authorization number. We can’t leave until we have that.” So I called back in and I spoke with someone else and she told me that she can't authorize that since their authorization department has to do that and that department was busy. She also told me that it was a 24-hour process. I told her, "This guy is at my house and he said he’s gonna take the part out and leave if he doesn’t have a confirmation number.”
I asked to get connected with the authorization department and I was on hold, because I can’t have the guy take the part out because the air conditioner will stop working. So we were on hold for about 35 minutes before a lady came on the line. She told me that she had to talk to the contractor and not to me. So I had the contractor talk to her and she was able to get the information. He was very nice to us but you could tell he was frustrated because he was able to fix the issue is five minutes but he was on our property for 35 minutes in order to get a number so that he can leave and get paid. That has been the only issue we've ever had with American Home Shield. We’ve used them four times since we moved into this house and everything has been fantastic. My dad called me yesterday and told me he'd get a contract with AHS and I told him that it's totally worth it.

This is the worst company ever! I mean that in every way possible, my refrigerator has been broke since June 18th, they sent a company Express Appliances, who really broke it all together, this company came out four times, each time I called AHS complaining, all I got was "I'm sorry mam". Buyers beware of this BS company, they take your money, and say **, then because you're upset that you paid for a service to protect you only to find out you're not, I am on insulin, and had to throw it away because I had no way of keeping it cold, my sugar is now at an all time high of 360, thanks a lot AHS. You really want to see me go into shock!! you guys need to be investigated... You are a FRAUD IN THE HIGHEST WAY POSSIBLE.

Back in September, we had a problem with our AC system. Called AHS and they sent someone out that said the compressor needed to be replaced and so the Freon needed to be put back in the system afterwards. This was fixed in October when temps were low and everything was assumed to be fine. Fast forward to this past week when we had a heat wave in the 90s and my AC stopped working so well and temps in the house got into the 80s with a two week old infant in the house. Asked my HVAC tech neighbor to take a peek and he thought the Freon was low but couldn't fix it as he didn't have any Freon.
Called AHS and they wanted to send out the same company but they couldn't come out until 4 days later. So I called AHS again and they sent out a different company that felt the previous technician did not put in enough Freon when they fixed the system. So they had to put in more Freon which I had to pay a portion of and I'm fine with. But when I called AHS to ask about waiving a repeat deductible for a problem from the previous technician I was only met with a robotic "sorry sir, our policy is you put in another work order so we have to charge you another fee". Was told that because I didn't submit a complaint about the service in October within 60 days after the work was completed there was nothing AHS could do to waive the fee.
Even though the tech told us there would be no way to know there is a problem until it reaches high temps outside because then the AC system could not keep up. So unless there was a way to magically make it 90 degrees outside in Maryland in October-December I wouldn't have known there was a problem. Very disappointed with AHS and how they handled this matter. I begged and pleaded to waive the service fee but was just met with a "sorry sir, there's nothing we can do". Well AHS, there's something I can do and that's find another home warranty company.
Good morning Matthew,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience to have the air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and refund the service fee that was paid for the second visit.

Extremely disappointed with AHS. We have been without AC since June 17, it is now July 6. A tech with one of your contracted companies, Service Mechanical of Tidewater, took one look at the outside of our unit and automatically filed the claim with your company (unbeknownst to us) as being ‘dog urine that caused catastrophic failure’ which is clearly not the reason for failure as there is no noticeable leakage of freon on the coils. Had the tech evaluated the unit properly he would have seen it was a ground fault on the compressor as the system is 20 years old.
Because of this tech’s laziness in our system’s diagnosis, AHS has determined that they will not cover the replacement cost under the ‘pest damage’ component of the contract. After being on the phone with your company for almost 45 minutes to argue this, the only relief they could offer me was to send yet another company to our residence on the 11th for a second opinion which is almost an entire week that we have to continue to wait. Mind you, this will now be the FOURTH company requested for repair and puts us at almost a month without AC. Our entire experience with your company has been ludicrous and I will absolutely sway everyone in my social networks to refrain from buying your home warranties.
Good morning Amy,
I understand your frustration with your most recent experience to have your air conditioner system repaired. The next option would be a second opinion to see if a different technician can obtain another diagnosis. I would be glad to speak with you and help get this resolved.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 6 years and have paid my bill on time. In January of 2018 I got what was supposed to be a NEW Compressor put in my AC unit. Now not even six months later that compressor has gone out. I paid $720 for the freon... in that supposedly new compressor. I am now waiting because American Home Shield is waiting on the company that gave them this refurbished compressor to respond. Meanwhile my children and I are sitting in the heat. AMH Shield should get someone to take that compressor out and replace it... then they settle it with the other company. I should not suffer. This is not good business.
Good morning Brenda,
I would like to thank you for your patronage over the past few years to AHS. I understand your frustration with your most recent experience to have the AC system repaired again after a replacement compressor was installed. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

We bought a house that was built in the 80's and getting American Home Shield was a pertinent thing to do. We've been with them for about nine years now and recently, the control panel on our dishwasher quit working and they sent somebody out. He got a list of parts to order and sent it to AHS. AHS then offered us a buy-out, so we took the cash and bought another dishwasher.
I usually file my claims over the phone and it’s better than when I go online. I’ve got a guy from a claim filed online and he was taking care of one of our resthouses. He looked at it about three days later than he was supposed to, then ordered a part. Then he waited until his next day-off to come and that was a week. That was during hot weather and we were with a baby and that didn’t make us very happy. Also, if I go online, they send these guys in from about 80 miles off instead of using the guys right here in town. If I call and tell them that I want the guys here in town, they would get them for me. Most experiences we've had with AHS are really good about taking care of issues in a pretty timely manner. The guys who come from way off are who we have issues with.

My AC unit needed service and normally submitting claims to American Home Shield has been good. However, I had to cancel my claim the last time around because their contractor couldn't service the AC unit until the Monday after I called. I have asthma and I couldn't wait that long so I didn't use my warranty. I had to pay someone to fix my AC unit and I wasn't too happy about that.
Another time, our bathroom was all messed up and we couldn't use either restroom because we had a really bad water leak. We had to turn the water off because of this and we couldn't turn it back on. We submitted a claim to AHS and the plumber from The Lindsay Company came out to fix it. He was very professional and didn't take that long. He identified what was wrong and took care of it. Despite the AC issue, using my AHS warranty was a good experience.

My AC was not cooling off and was just blowing normal air. The contractors replaced a little valve and it took a little longer than normal for them to come in. One of those guys' family member passed away and they couldn’t make it, but they were really proactive about coming back and they made sure everything was fine. The contractor who came out to do the work was a really nice guy. He talked to me for a bit and we went together and checked on everything. He told me right away what was wrong and they took the unit serial number. They called me back and they told me how long it was gonna take to get the part. They came in when they got the part two days after and installed it.
However, American Home Shield should get a contractor closer to the city where you actually opened the claim from. The contractors who came out were from Oregon and I live in Washington. AHS should have one or two more contractors available in the area so if somebody doesn't come in, somebody else will. They were a little short-handed. Other than that, everything has been good. The house is nice and cold now. And the claims reps had really good communication skills and they provided good service. When I first called in, they told me I was gonna receive a text and they texted me. They called me also and they have a little application where they show when the car is on its way.

I had a warranty claim for a pool pump failure. I called American Home Shield's claims department and that went well. The reps were very courteous and thorough. They asked me all the right questions and did a really good job. They were pretty prompt too. They got a contractor right out and check the pool pump out. He was good and reasonably professional. He knew what he was doing as well.
I've only had my warranty around five weeks prior to my pool pump going out, so I was very pleased with the fact that American Home Shield jumped on my problem right away. I've also already got one of my friends to sign up with them as I've told him that American Home Shield is a good company and since they have a pool, he should consider getting a home warranty from them to save a whole lot of money. One repair would almost pay for the pool warranty that they pay in a year’s time.

I've had American Home Shield for almost 15 years and they've been giving good service. As a whole, their technicians are very professional, timely, and they do a very good job. However, sometimes we'd get a jerk from one contractor or they'd try to sell us something off their own independent contracts and not want us to tell anybody. That doesn't reflect American Home Shield and I always call them about such contractor and tell them that they might wanna reconsider the company.
I once had a guy, who after I asked for an ID, asked me why I needed the ID. And when I told it was because I didn't know who he was, he then asked me, "Why? Is this neighborhood not safe?" I told him I couldn't let him in if couldn't show me an ID. And also, this guy came in an unmarked white van. I'm not gonna let anybody like that in my house and I don't know who they are. That was stupid. And so I contacted American Home Shield on that. But the rest of the other technicians that have come, they identify. And on my most recent claim, the technician who came out, Nick, was very nice, professional and he made sure that everything was working properly. I had to file a claim because after I came back from vacation, there was no hot water. I easily filed the claim online and then the next day, I got a text from AHS letting me know when the technician will be out and they also said I could track them too.
Nick said it was a switch then he gave me a receipt of the problem that he took care of. It worked for a day but then the very next day, there was no hot water again. So I called them back and he came out and checked it again and he said the problem was a filter. He replaced it with a brand new filter and now I have hot water. Things have been fine ever since. All in all, I recommend American Home Shield to friends and I've done it several times. And their plan and cost are very reasonable compared to others. It's been a very good experience with American Home Shield.

I submit claims with American Home Shield both online and by phone. When the clothes dryer quit heating, I submitted online and the repairman came out. He ordered a part, came back, put it in and the dryer is working fine now. He was very good and easy to work with. Before the dryer was fixed, we couldn't dry our clothes. But after that, it has helped in getting things done.
However, a few years ago, we had an air conditioning problem. And whoever AHS sent out denied the repair because he said that the air conditioner had been improperly installed. But it had been working for 25 years with no problems. So, saying it was improperly installed didn't make sense. They said it had to be replaced and they wouldn't pay for it. The company that was sent out was gonna charge me $3500 to replace the air conditioning unit and I got screwed on that deal because I had an independent guy come out and he charged me $4500 to replace both units, not just one unit.
I almost canceled, but I've had AHS for 20 years and I've had good experience with small appliances when it didn't cost them much to fix. But when the repair cost them a lot, then it was a different story. My daughter has AHS too and she had the same experience with a major repair with air conditioning. It was denied, but with appliances, there was no problem, and I think that's garbage. So with the air conditioner, I've been totally unsatisfied with the experience, but with the others, I've been satisfied.

Ronnie, the guy who helped me do it, was very professional and prompt, and he answered all my questions, so I couldn’t be happier. AHS has good customer service but it was confusing sometimes when I put in a service request. I was told that the vendor would call me after 24 hours, but in both times that I put in a service request, I didn't get any phone call within 24 hours. With my furnace however, I had a run-in with American Home Shield on that. They had to put a furnace in but they didn’t want to go for it. I had to contact the CEO and then they came through. They made a big stink of it, but they did it. My brother recommended them so I would recommend it to someone else too because we'll never know what's gonna go out and how expensive it's gonna be.

There was a blockage in one of the old flow valves and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield online, and that experience was awesome. It took a couple of days for the techs to get here the first time because it was a weekend but that was fine. The other time, within 24 hours they were here. AHS switched companies from last year to this year because it was a different air conditioning company that came out this time. The ones that came out last year was pathetic. This time, the technicians knew what they were doing. The just had to blow and clear the valve out.

The air conditioner wasn’t working and I couldn’t figure out quite what it was. It wasn’t coming on with the thermostat. The compressor and the fan weren’t running. I called AHS and it was the first time I've made a claim. I preferred calling to get an answer and send information. I might change my mind after I have a couple of opportunities or problems that have to be solved.
Everything was very positive, both in making the claim and talking to the service guy. The rep answered my questions and I submitted the appropriate information. It was very satisfactory, and I was not frustrated or distressed. The contractor was very helpful. He gave a simple solution but he did more than he had to. He had gotten the AC running and then tested everything twice to make sure that the output was what it should be. It had to do with the pressure of the coolant. I asked him a couple of questions and he answered. Plus, he was very concerned about making things right and doing the job, which seemed right to me. However, I get a lot of stuff over email from American Home Shield.

AHS and the appliance company handled my recent claim just fine, but when I had an air conditioner problem, they didn’t satisfy the situation at all. I’ve had close to 20 different vendors come out, each giving me a line that the air conditioner cannot go lower than 20 degrees. So when it was 110 out, it would only reach 90 in the home, but that was not the case. The problem with AHS is if it’s something major, they don’t wanna pay for it. They would rather Mickey Mouse the problem, get the item working for a very short period of time and hope that the consumer gets fed up and purchases a new item, just like I did. It was irritating.
It seemed like I was calling every 60 days to have the air conditioner looked at. Instead of replacing the parts that need to be replaced and getting the AC back in order, they put a Band-Aid on it and hope it doesn’t go back out in less than 60 days. Otherwise, I can call the provider again. It always goes out after that but they never handled the problem in the first place. Most of the contractors were okay but they’re working for AHS, not for me. They wanna keep their contract with AHS so they don’t want to tell AHS that the air conditioner needs to be replaced.
I have the bills and receipts over the last four years of them repairing my air conditioner constantly every four to six months. I can’t even tell how many receipts I have from AHS. I’m paying AHS every month for them to take care of the problem. And I’m paying $75 every time an air conditioner guy comes out to look at it. It’s ridiculous. It has cost me more money to have AHS send someone to look at the AC than it would have cost had I just replaced it the first time I had a problem with it. AHS sucks.

I had American Home Shield on a previous home in California and I was pleased, so I continued using them. I do everything online, so submitting my claims to them online is easier for me. On the most recent clam that I had, the contractor who came out was professional and went right to work. Almost immediately, he solved the problem with some of my outlets that did not work. He also came out for a previous claim that I had where he couldn't fix the problem and he said that he needed to come back to fix it. And he never did. But this time, he fixed it just fine.

I have been with American Home Shield for a long time. And when my AC started making a rumbling noise and wasn’t blowing out any air, I called AHS and they sent A & R over. While my interactions with their reps were great, when I initially called, it seemed like I was speaking to someone in another country because they could hardly understand me, I couldn’t understand them, and then they hung up. But I kept calling back until I got someone who could understand me. It went great after that.
The guy from A & R, Brian, was a very good and polite person. He was also quick in doing his job and I liked his customer service skills. He was able to repair the AC but the next day, it made a rumbling noise again and it started burning. So he came back and had to replace the motor. Brian apologized as well. Since the repair, the AC is working fine. It's blowing and has no growling sound. There's no smoking, too. Overall, I love Brian, A & R, and AHS. I'm very happy and I would recommend American Home Shield. However, the fee keeps going up. Also, they have previously sent an awful AC company out here to my home. Air One messed up the AC and I complained to AHS and told them not to send them back. But they said no since they have to send the next one on the list and it wasn't fair because these people did awful work and I didn’t want them in my home.

Their contractors were good except that the refrigerator that had to be done is still not working properly and it's been several months. I have put in a claim to American Home Shield website. Submitting a claim was pretty easy but there’s no section for putting notes though. I couldn’t put the issue that I was having on there. It was just all dropdowns and clicks. The contractor who came out was nice and professional. He looked at the bottom vent and it’s dirty. He said that was the culprit, so he cleaned that and left. He came on the last day that we were in town and we went out of town for two weeks the day after. However, we just got back yesterday and I don't think the fridge was fixed. It’s cooling enough to keep the food good and not rotten but I don’t think it should be at the highest setting.

When our refrigerator's cooling unit was broken, I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their online site was very user-friendly and it only took me a few minutes to file a claim. Their site was intuitive and it flowed in a logical manner. The contractor AHS sent was very professional and he came on time. Once he looked at the refrigerator's cooling unit, he found out that the hole in the coolant area was too big to be patched. He told me that if they can fix it, they will. But because it isn't even fixable, they will replace it. The technician explained everything thoroughly to us and we understood how everything's going. They gave us the timetable for when the claim would be completed.
I’ve had insurance companies before where I have the policy but they were not gonna cover the claim because of this and that, or they were only gonna give us 80% of the value of something. But AHS replaced our fridge and gave us a new one that was pretty comparable with the one that was broken. It wasn't the exact model, but it was a new one so we're pretty pleased with the service. American Home Shield is a great insurance to have and I had a really good experience.

I have a problem with filing a claim online. The website only lets me put in one item for electronics. So even if I have a ceiling fan and an outlet that are not working, the website only lets me put one thing in. On the other hand, when you can call, the second issue gets on the list and there’s one fee to have the electrician sent out for both. I’ve had it happen where I am told that the technician would only check one thing and not the second issue because that was not what I put down in the claim. But there wasn’t a place for me to do the other one. American Home Shield encourages everybody to put their claim in online but it is actually a detriment if there is a need to talk to somebody down the road. If you do something online, it gets handled in a whole different world. If you speak to a representative about what you did online, they act like they don’t have to help you on that.
I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield when we noticed that the pump wasn’t working. I live in a flat roof house so when the condensation from the air conditioner builds up, it goes into a drain pan and the pump takes it out the pipe. The technician came out, looked at the pump, turned the switch on and said it was done. What must have happened was when we had had somebody come out and clean our coils, they turned the pump off when they were moving things around. The technician was a nice guy. He was prompt and good. But with everybody else, the service and response time have been so bad.
I assume American Home Shield does some kind of due diligence but most of the contractors they’re contracting with now are single guys working out of the backend of a pickup truck. At 11:00, the electrician from Mayday Electronics was telling me he could get to me next week and at that time, he was at home. I heard a baby crying in the background.
I've also got AC issues with Advantage Air. Those are the worst people. They had been out several times over the last couple of weeks and in the end, I just spent $1,500 getting something replaced rather than dealing with them again. These guys told me they could get to the property in a week and a half. But the property is a weekly condo beachfront. Who was I gonna rent it to with no AC? I get $3,000 a week and it was cheaper for me to pay out of my pocket and keep the renter than wait for the technician.
Another time, they came out to my rental property at 10:00 in the morning. The technician just came in, did some work and then left. He didn’t tell me about it or leave an invoice about what he did. My tenant called me an hour later and told me that they had no water. I called the AC company and asked if they happened to turn the water off and they said, “No. Why would we ever touch the water?” But the water was on and after their guy was there, the water was not on.
I went out to the property and called the water company. They came out, checked the meter and looked for leaks but they couldn’t get anything. Then I called a plumber and he kept saying that there must be something wrong with the meter. They didn’t even want to come out because they said they didn’t wanna waste my money. I told them that the water had left and said it was not their issue. So the plumbing company came out and the owner was with them. They sent me a video that they went to the house by the AC and there was a valve that had been turned off. It was similar to the pump that we originally called about. I called the owner of the AC company but he said that he had known the technician for 10 years and if the guy said he didn’t do anything then he didn’t. I got into an argument with the owner and he flat out called me a liar.
It cost me $239 to have the plumber to come out after hours and it took me a solid three weeks to get an invoice from the AC technician. I called his office as well as texted and emailed him. Finally, he faxed the invoice to me. Those guys are a joke and when I told American Home Shield, they said they would look into it but nothing ever came out of it.
AHS has a very bad name in this area and this is an area where every house can basically get sold. People would want to have a home warranty for a year but nobody is wanting to ride with AHS. My management company won't even deal with AHS. I’ve told AHS many times about their contractors though. They really need to vet the people that they're giving the contracts to. It is already upsetting when something is wrong with your house but then with AHS, you know the battle. You’re getting ready to go through dealing with the service provider and it’s almost not worth it. You’re better off just calling whoever to come and fix it. I have contracts with American Home Shield for three homes and I’m considering cancelling all my contracts and moving to a different company.

They called on Saturday and since the next day was a Sunday, they set it up for Monday. The thermostat went wrong with our air-conditioning but they didn’t replace it with exactly what we had. It looks like a lower grade model. But the problem was fixed timely and now, we can use the upstairs again. My wife also really liked the guy. I submitted the claim for the dishwasher online and I put in the details. They gave me a number where I could call and they called me within a couple of hours. The representative who called me back to take down the information and tell me what contractor in my area that they use, what their name was and address gave me the contact number so I called the contractor and set up an appointment. AHS didn’t set up the appointment for me because they didn’t know what my schedule was and I appreciate that.
AHS already had a contractor signed within the day and I had to slow it down a little bit because I couldn’t get freed from work. He showed up right on time, called me half an hour before he got there so I could get home. He was very nice, friendly and clean. He also showed me in the future what I can do to double check the appliance before even having to call them and he was on-site for half an hour. Since then, it’s been working fine.
It was my first claim with American Home Shield and the whole experience was excellent. It was better than my experience where I bought extended warranties on the appliance. Our home is in an 11-unit condo and everybody has asked me about my experience with this and one other person in the condo already has American Home Shield covering her appliances. The building’s now getting to be about 10 years old and many of the appliances are getting to be about 10 years old so people are looking into it rather than replacing the appliance. We need to have something in place to protect it and I recommended AHS.

I have a home warranty through this company. I had to have my air conditioner serviced. I was double charged for the $75 service call fee. I contacted American Shield on 6/1/2018 to inform them that they had double charged me. I spoke to a customer service representative named Shantel who told me that a refund would be processed for me. She said the refund would take 7-14 business days. After waiting over 7 business days, I called back to check on the status of my refund. I made this call on 6/14/2018, I first spoke with a Cynthia a customer service representative. She informed me that my refund request was never processed. She informed me that they cancelled my refund request because I should have been double charged. I immediately asked to speak with a supervisor.
I was transferred to Jona, I explained to Jona that I was double charged and promised a refund and that the refund request was canceled. Jona informed me that he would re-process the refund request and that it would now take 14-21 days. I called American Home Shield again 7/6/2018 after not receiving my refund. I was told that for some reason my refund hadn’t been processed. The first person that I spoke with was a customer service representative by the name of Alex. Alex explained that the refund request hadn’t been processed. I immediately asked to speak with a supervisor. I was placed on hold and held for 30 minutes before being disconnected. At no time did Alex call me back, even though he verified my contact information at the beginning of our call.
As you can see this company has horrible customer service. I called back, waited 20 minutes before another CSR by the name of Yhel answered. I explained the entire scenario to Yhel, only to again be informed that my refund hadn’t been processed but she “thinks” that Alex processed the refund but she would have to call me back the next day because she wasn’t sure. I asked to be again transferred to a supervisor. This time I got Jenny. Jenny gives me the same runaround that the other CSR’s gave me. She needs to call me back the next day because she needs to research why my 3 other refund request weren’t processed. She thinks Alex processed it but she needs to email him.
At this point, I’m livid. I’ve been on the phone with this company now for over an hour and no one can tell me what happened to my refund. So I inform Jenny that Alex never confirmed, before he disconnected our call, that he processed my refund. I explained to her that as a supervisor she should be able to process my refund and put a rush on it. After all, I was told on 6/1/2018 that my refund would be processed. I’ve been give so much conflicting information. I told her I wanted to speak with her manager. Magically she doesn’t have a manager. At the same time I’m on the phone with “Jenny” my husband called to speak with a manager, he gets Wayne. Wayne informs my husband that he sees that our issue has been escalated 4 times but no one has done anything. However, he couldn’t either. So SAD!
So in a nutshell, I ended my call with Jenny by her “claiming” she’s processing a refund for me and that it now will take 7-21 business days before I will receive it. I advised her that I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and every other agency I can find to file a complaint with. My husband informed Wayne of the same. This company owes me $75 and continues to give me excuses and the runaround. I want my money and I won’t stop until I get it.

Purchased AHS warranty with recent move to a house that has original A/C units (25 years old). In the last month of the contract, I renewed for another year... without any claims. The same week, my A/C goes out. Filed claim with AHS on 6/25/18 and they called their contractor to come check it out. Contractor came out and in 15 minutes, determined the 25 year old A/C unit was still good, just needed a new compressor. This means it will also need R22 refrigerant, which is being phased out by the federal gov't. Guess what, AHS warranty only covers a fraction of the of costs of R22. The contract clearly states that they will only pay up to $10 per lb. for R22. Problem is... R22 costs at least $75 per lb... if more!!! I'm now out at least $455 worth of R22. Why did I buy a warranty???
Anyway... AHS tells me they will have a new compressor sent to their vendor (Carrier) in order for their contractor to pick it up. I was told it would be there no later than today, 7/6/18... 10 days from the date I filed the claim. As a result, I took my family out of town because we could not stand being without A/C. I tried to call AHS this morning to confirm that the part had arrived as expected... and I could not get a hold of them. Every number on their website would disconnect me after sending me through the phone "menu".
I literally called 11 times before someone actually answered their "help" line. And what did they tell me when I finally got to speak with someone? You guessed it... it would NOT be delivered as I was told it would and it would be another 3 to 4 days... they think. (no guarantee) So now I'm looking at a minimum of 2 weeks without A/C... and no guarantee when the part will be here... much less be installed. If/when it does get installed... I'll have a 25 year old A/C unit, with a brand new compressor... using refrigerant that has been discontinued by the federal gov't. The only decent part of this whole debacle (to this point) is the pleasant demeanor of the customer service agents. It is certainly not their fault that the company they work for doesn't appear to be interested in providing quality customer service for the warranties they are selling. I will provide an update within the next week as this thing plays out. Gonna be a hot week. :(
UPDATE: after submitting my 1-star review on 7/6/18, I received an email from AHS claiming to want to help resolve my issue. Yeah!!! I immediately responded via email eager to speak to someone…………no response. I responded again today………….no response. So, I can’t even get the “customer care/complaint dept.” at AHS to respond to me. The lack of customer service with AHS is absolutely staggering.
So…..I called American Home Shield today (7/10/18) to get an update on the A/C part that was ordered back on 6/29/18 and was supposed to be delivered on 7/6/18…….and then again on 7/10/18. Was now told that the part had not been “approved for delivery” and was never shipped. What??? I’m now on day 16 without A/C. I asked the young lady if there was someone I could speak to about this and she put me on hold. She came back about 5 minutes later and said that she was told that because this is a “part” issue, they cannot escalate my dilemma to anyone else. (Wow……you can’t make this stuff up) I asked her what she recommended I do. She apologized and said she didn’t know what I should do. I actually felt sorry for her because she wanted to help me, but was unable to. Next stop…….Better Business Bureau.

The other said he couldn't find the leak and suggested someone stole the freon, I live in a neighborhood where a police officer lives across the street and 2 people and a dog is home all day. I called AHS back waited for 30 mins to be hung up on. As of today no results. I still don't know what's wrong with the AC. It won't even turn on. I will be canceling my contract. I don't want to waste any more money on this warranty. A real waste of time.
Good morning Ms. Ashford,
I understand your concerns with the missing Freon and AC repairs that need to be completed under your warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Would've taken 10 days to fix my A/C so I did it myself. Refused to fix a roof leak that caused a few thousand in damage, so I did it myself. Dryer broke, I purchased a new one, refused to reimburse me. Now my oven and dishwasher are out and there is no service tech within 50 miles of me. For over a week I've been out of both. Won't return my phone calls or give my money back. I am beyond furious and would never recommend them to anyone.

Every year the A/C goes out and every year they come to fix it, which usually costs me a few hundred dollars extra. In 2016 they had the WORST company out, who replaced the coil in the attic after coming out a few times to figure out what the problem is and charging me a few hundred dollars. The following year they had a great company come out to fix it again even though it cost another $590.00. This year it went out again cost me another $218.00. Now the coil is making a terrible rattling noise in the attic. Called to ask for the good company to come out and they said I'd have to pay more to use the good company. So now I have to wait for the latest company to come out and hope and pray the house doesn't burn down as I don't have that much confidence in their newest contractor. If the house burns down I will have to sue them. Plus, I couldn't understand a WORD what the AHS customer service girl was saying and she wasn't making any sense.

We have an AHS warranty that costs $700. We called to submit a claim because our hvac was broken. We waited 2 days and still never heard from a technician so I called the one they assigned me and he laughed at me and said that he doesn't even cover that area. We called and filed another request. They sent us a company that couldn't come out until a week later!!!! I called and requested a different company and couldn't get one because I had to speak with someone in India that doesn't speak English even though I requested a supervisor 5 times and was denied.
We waited the week, the company came out on a Friday and said, "Yep, it's broken and I can only work on one of the units because you only have one claim in and have to file an additional claim to get the second unit looked at." I filed the second claim and the technician then has to file the information and wait for AHS to reply. It's been 5 days and they finally agree to replace the air handler, but I'll have to pay $475 out of pocket because the warranty only covers $125. It's been 3 weeks!! Stil no air, and even if I agree to the repair it'll be another 2 weeks for them to order in parts, etc. Do not use this company!!!!

In 2017, we had an A/C technician come to my home on various occasions for repair of an old a/c unit. Each time, I was told it was something different that needed repair and each time, it cost $100. Finally, in June 2017, it seemed that the unit was finally repaired after many repair visits. I thought this would be the end, however, the a/c unit needs repairing again, one year later. I submitted another service request, and paid another $100. It seems as if I might as well replace the unit myself since, at the rate we are going, all these $100 payments will soon total the amount another unit costs. If this unit is not repaired or replaced, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Scheduled service w/ AHS online when AC unit stopped working last November - this is in a high-rise in Miami where AC is a must! First company they scheduled failed to show or call three times! Nine days pass with no AC and son who is an EMT/paramedic w/ a crazy schedule is jumping thru hoops to get the time off to meet these repeated no shows, so with zero confidence the company is ever going to show I set an alarm to wake at 3:00 am to call AHS because calling during the day meant at least a two hour hold time! I finally get thru at 3 am and despite the no shows I still have to BEG them to schedule a different AC company. (They said we had to give the 1st co the opportunity to make it right - really? Three times??).
The 2nd company they scheduled did show and managed to get the unit working again - but the fix didn't last. (And we suspect it only lasted as long as it did due to the cooler winter temps putting less demand on it - that and the fact that we use it much less in the winter.) Fast forward, unit gets progressively worse, we schedule w/ AHS, more band aid/temp fixes and now July 2018 - unit will not cool below 80! Again, this is in a high rise in MIAMI w/ ambient temps in the high 90s and max humidity! Call AHS again - begged and begged for a diff company since the other failed to fix it (their policy is that the same co must do the callback). Finally they agree to send a diff company - tech arrives, does some inspection and tells us the unit needs to be replaced and that he will discuss his findings w/ his office and call back.
We never hear from him again so again call AHS - they send the 2nd company back out... That tech says there is a clog, which he cleans out, but that pressures are normal, freon is good and the temps coming out are as they should be. He says "give it time, it will cool down over the next few hours." Fyi, they say this EVERY TIME!!! Not one time has the unit started to cool as if it has been fixed while they are still present!! Out of pure frustration after this most recent visit we paid out of pocket for a service call w/ another company - they arrived two hours after the AHS company and said the unit had multiple issues and likely needed to be replaced. (It is 10 years old.)
At this point we are still dealing w/ AHS in hopes that will replace or at least properly repair the unit as that IS the point of the warranty! Given the horrible reviews for every company AHS has sent out, I wonder if the business model is to just make the quick visit and collect the fees from AHS with no intention of doing more involved repairs? AHS was recommended by our trusted realtor, shame on me for not doing more research. I saw the positive reviews on the AHS site (which now are shocking to me!) and felt comfortable, I've since looked deeper and suspect Yelp and Google paint a more accurate picture.
Updated on 07/11/2018: I previously posted a 1 star negative review for AHS, they replied to my review asking if they could contact me to resolve it - I replied yes but of course, I've heard nothing! A few days later I receive another email with the same wording, again I say, "Yes, please contact me." It has now been five days and I've yet to hear from them but I now see above my review is a line that reads "resolution in progress." I haven't heard from anyone and I can assure you, there is NO RESOLUTION in progress. I wonder if they reply in order to get a response so that they can label the negative reviews "resolution in progress" and have it appear as if they are genuinely working in good faith to resolve complaints. ConsumerAffairs needs to look into this.

I have a 14 year-old house and as my major appliances aged, I wanted somebody who was going to cover me for whatever reason. American Home Shield looked like a good bet. I talked to some friends who had some AHS experience and did research. Thereafter, I decided to give them a try. Recently, we bought a water filter for our fridge which we routinely change every 180 days. I thought I was ordering the actual parts but then we got a knock off. What we got was slightly different and it was enough to upset the marrying of it with the fridge. I went out and got a real Samsung filter but that still didn't cure the problem. So, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. They put in contact with the folks who were going to do the maintenance, I called them and give them a better description so they would be better prepared when they came out here.
The contractor was diligent about getting a hold of me and putting a little bit of phone tag because they were a little ahead of schedule. Still, that wasn't quite convenient so we worked together and they finally got out to my place at the time they promised. Their guy assessed the problem and had to order a part. But then, he got back quicker than he estimated and solved my problem before I left on a trip. Since the repair, the fridge has been good. My wife talked to the technician and said that he was courteous and respective. He stayed on task and was in and out as he should be. Our fridge wasn't old and it shouldn't be having any issues but then it had just fallen out of warranty. Still, AHS helped cover my lapse in coverage and I'm pretty happy with it. I had to pay $100 for the service but then I'd probably pay that for each appliance every year for the warranty. Overall, I recommend American Home Shield.

My upstairs and downstairs toilets were backed up and American Home Shield sent out plumbers. I’ve had the first plumber out three times and the second one once, but I’m still at a standstill with the plumbing. We left it at that, and if anything happens, AHS is gonna send the second plumber out a second time. I keep asking the techs if they were snaking the drains out to the street or were they clogged somewhere 10 feet from the house. They said that they were snaking the drains out for me, but they didn’t really do anything. They plunged them and that was it. Then the next day after they left, the toilets was backed up again. And sometimes they backed up without paper.
Then I was told that they’re old toilets, but I don’t get that. They’re old, but both toilets are doing the same thing. Also, the techs couldn’t see anything wrong with the toilets but they didn’t wanna remove it and check if there’s something stuck in it. They told me that if it’s something that isn’t supposed to be there, then I have to pay for that service for $200 extra as it’s not something that’s covered by American Home Shield. But it can’t be that the upstairs and downstairs toilet has something in them. So far, my husband had to plunge the toilets again and if they back up, then I’d have to call AHS out again. But I don’t see how that problem is gonna be resolved if I have to pay them to come out then pay them to remove the toilet.

On the day before, the contractor would give us an idea when they're coming. They would also text and call when they're about to leave their previous job and are on their way.
When we had a really hot spell, my wife thought that the AC was not blowing that cold. The contractor came out for the first time but when he was about go outside to check the unit, the heavens unfortunately opened up with a lot of thunder and lightning. American Home Shield is more inclusive and the best among several different companies that I saw on the market at the time I got a home warranty. I’ve been with them between two and three years. I went through them last April 1 when my Lennox heat pump wouldn’t start. They sent out a company who made 15 service calls but could never fix the heat pump. They didn’t know much about Lennox. So, I told American Home Shield that I was through with the company and to get me somebody else that knows something about heat pumps. They referred me to Furnace Doctor that was knowledgeable of Lennox and they found the problem but they got the wrong parts. They replaced the wiring and everything in it.
Furnace Doctor made five visits but yesterday, they gave up. They finally said that there was some kind of restriction in it so they’re gonna pull the unit and put in a new unit. They did that and the heat pump has been working fine in the last 24 hours. It’s a huge relief as it has been up to 90 degrees. I usually go online when submitting a claim to AHS and it is very simple. They respond fairly quick but it depends on the contractor that it ends up a week before AHS can get an appointment with a contractor.
I dealt with the regular service reps at American Home Shield for a while and when they recognized that the issue was getting to the point where it needed to be escalated, they put me in touch with Amy in the executive relations who was wonderful to work with. I wrote to her supervisor an email telling him she needed a raise. Also, I’ve recommended AHS to several friends and I told them that home insurance makes a lot of sense especially if the appliances are older. I’ve lived in the house since 1988 and all of my appliances are aging. It’s a matter of time until I have problems with them. But I would suggest that AHS needs to screen their contractors a little more carefully.

I called in a plumbing issue to American Home Shield as the cold water was coming out but the hot side wasn't. The contractor was knowledgeable because he said that it was just a lot of stuff that was caught up on the line. He fixed the problem but the water was leaking after. So, they said they needed a part to stop it from leaking and they would come back out. When my wife called them back, they said they were still waiting on the part. It's been three weeks now, but they still haven’t fixed it.
Also, with American Home Shield, sometimes I have to wait even if it’s an emergency like the one time when we had a baby in our house and there was no AC. American Home Shield has gotten so large that the customer would have to wait until whenever they would say so and not with the customer’s needs. I understand there'd be some times when they couldn't do it but there have been times where they were having really negative attitudes about it. But the past couple of times, they've been okay.

My time with American Home Shield was absolutely the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had in my life. If you want to place an order for a service call it’s gonna cost you $75 per service request in addition to whatever the premium is. That’s a bit annoying and it seems a little stiff. Secondly, you get two options for placing that order, one of them is online and one is via phone. If you go online, you’re given a very generic, limited selection from which to indicate what the service issue is and you can’t pick more than a couple per section without having to do an additional $75 fee. So, if you have four different electrical issues and you want to have them looked at all at once, AHS won’t let you do that. They force you to do more than one $75 fee.
Then there are some weird glitches with their online system as well where you’re trying to it fill out and something doesn’t apply to you at all and you’re not sure what to do next. Also, if you have nobody ever show up and you wanna make sure that you don’t ever get bills, they set the system up so you cannot remove you’re routing number on your bank account, so there’s no way to avoid the charge. They will not let you remove it online. You can add a payment source but you can’t remove one which is annoying. If you make the phone call, you’re looking at at least a 30-minute wait. Nobody has that kind of time.
Then as far as the service themselves, they will contract you to the bottom of the barrel as far as contractors are concerned. I had one good experience and I had about five service calls. As of now, I have been waiting a month and a half to have a toilet that needs to be replaced, replaced. I can’t get the contractor to call me and I can’t get them to do anything. I keep leaving messages for the contractor begging him to call me back. I took off work three days and waited and he didn’t show up. One time, he said that he was on his way and he still didn’t show up. So, I called American Home Shield and they told me that they would resubmit the ticket. I told them that I want a different contractor assigned and they refused. Then I asked for a manager. I got the manager on the line and he sounded like a hillbilly that just is calling to tell me he has won the lottery.
He was annoying as hell and I explained the situation to him and he was the biggest mental midget I’ve ever heard in my life and I have no patience for that. After a month and a half of having a ceiling that collapsed and a toilet that is wrecked where I can’t flush, I was frustrated. I wasn’t getting anywhere with this idiot. He told me that he’d have somebody call me and I still have not heard from the contractor and from AHS. My contract with them is up relatively soon and they actually made a call the same day asking me to renew with them. It wasn’t the person’s fault that called me but I told him that I’m not even close.
Also, AHS has all kinds of exclusions and crap. For example, the toilet and our pipes that were contributing to my bathroom ceiling falling in, it's a bathroom above a bathroom and I poked the ceiling and a chunk of stuff came out because it had different leaks up there. I climbed up to look and pulled down a little bit of plaster. Then the contractor got there and told me that the toilet needs to be replaced. He fixed the pipes which was good. Then I’m talking to this idiot from AHS on the phone and he told me that the ceiling wouldn’t be covered and that it would only be covered if the contractor cut it out. I told him that the contractor was gonna have to cut it out as there was no other access without going through there and the ceiling was falling out. He then told me that I was the one that pulled it out and not the contractor. Are you kidding me? My experience with American Home Shield was horrible.

So there were a lot of ringing around and chasing and I wasn’t very pleased with the AHS customer service that I was dealing with.
But the contractor was pretty good. He came out, assess the issue and told me what was wrong. He said he was going to submit the claim but it took them forever to submit it to AHS. He came out on Thursday and my AC was working halfway decently. I was at least getting some cold air coming out but it was just flaky. After he came out, my AC completely went out the very next day. I called them back to let them know and it was downhill from there. I went about two weeks without AC.
I had some issues submitting the claim. One guy said he submitted it, but AHS said that they didn’t get it. So I was calling both companies back and forth. Eventually, the AC got fixed. It doesn’t feel like it’s cooling like how it was initially but because I'm on a bottom floor, I can’t really tell if it’s now functioning again or if it's because of some other reason. I had an AC issue and gave American Home Shield my deductible ahead of time. I told them that they just sent somebody to my house 10 months ago to put a new unit in but they didn’t re-dispatch that contractor. So instead of being a recheck, I paid the service call. AHS sent another company out and on the first day, the tech told me I was low on Freon. How can it be low on Freon if they just charged it up? I didn’t use the AC because it had been the winter time. I’m responsible for Freon so I paid $200 in Freon and they put two pounds in there.
All of a sudden, four days later, it was hot again and we got a leak. AHS sent a guy out. The guy checked out the leak and said that it was the expansion valve. He had to wait for AHS for a day for authorization, which in Arizona, at 115 with no AC is not convenient. And half the time, they wanted to send the part so they get a better pricing so there was no sense of urgency. We got six kids and it was not easy. Then they sent me a company back out here to put the expansion valve in. But AHS tells me, “Oh by the way, the expansion valve on your house, they changed the design of it.” So this is where they get you and make up for the low labor that they pay the trade along with the part discount because they have to work and negotiate deals out. I’m in the car business so I get it.
So what happens is they get in there and tell me, “Okay. So your expansion valve needs special sheet metal and tin work done. It’s a different type of valve. But it’s for your compressor. They’ve updated it. They don’t have the old style anymore. So we’re gonna have to hit you for $350 for customization, a copper, a new brass line and all those insulation stuff.” I ended up paying another $500 to the contractor, Arizona Trade Masters.
I looked the job up and to repair the AC, it’s about a three-hour job. The guy was here for three hours so why am I paying the additional for it? American Home Shield was cheating the vendor at my expense and that was where the problem was. I’ve been told by AC companies that AHS gouge them at such a cheap rate that they have to make it up from the customer and I don’t appreciate that.
The same thing happened on my last AC when my compressor unit was put in. AHS only covered $10 a pound in Freon per the contract and they told the contractor to charge whatever they wanted. So instead of it being $10 a pound and covered, I paid $50 a pound. The contractor charged me $60 a pound and ended up getting $700 out of me because the compressor job is a bigger job. They had to make up more in labor. So it’s just a scam. AHS is a horrible company. They do whatever they can to save every dollar. I’ll be switching to either Balboa or a different one.

But I heard from the contractor and they came out within less than 48 hours. The guy who came out was very knowledgeable on what was going on with the electrical system. He told us some other options about replacing some sockets that we might need to look at in the future, but regards to just that breaker. He came in, told us what was wrong, and switched it out for us. It was in one appointment and it has been working ever since. Thus far, for every request that I’ve submitted, it has been satisfied and all contractors have been knowledgeable and definitely helped us with our problems.

Something was wrong with the handle of my water spigot and every time I turn the water on, it would flow. So I called American Home Shield to file a claim and my interaction with the claims rep was good. But sometimes I end up getting somebody who's not from the US. The guy can’t comprehend and they repeat what I'm saying and that drives me crazy. But the contractors that they always send from Home Services are very nice. I still had a warranty on the handle and they sent me a new one. And all the plumber did was put it on. Since the repair, the water spigot has been wonderful and I don’t have to worry about my water hose thing shooting off every time I turn the water on.

In the beginning, American Home Shield was not too good. They had contacts that were awful, the ones who came to do the work didn’t have the right tools, and I had to call somebody else to do the work. But now, AHS has gotten better. They cleaned up their act and I've been happy with them. I recently submitted a claim for a plumbing issue at my main property in Holland, Ohio and they took care of it. Like anything else, I had to wait for the tech from T & J Rooter Services to show up in X amount of days. They let me know when they were gonna be able to go there then I had to meet them out there. They gave me a window from 8-12 or from 2-4 and the scheduling was an inconvenience. But other than that, I was satisfied with my experience with AHS.

When the AC unit outside failed, I had a good experience submitting the claim. The first guy they sent wasn't able to fix it and he was charging an emergency fee because it was a weekend. I called AHS and they said they would just send somebody else. I was out of town and when I spoke to the renter, he said the contractor came that very same day and got the AC working.

A plumber that American Home Shield sent was supposed to be here at 4 o'clock. I had an appointment so I had my mom waiting here. There was no call and he finally shows up at 6 o'clock, walks in the house and turns on my sink. My mom was like, "There's no water. Look." He said, "Well, I can't see what's the matter if no water is flowing out of it." She was like, "And why do you think you're here?" So she opens up underneath my sink and she goes, "There's where you need to be checking." He said, "Oh, well. We'll probably just gonna order a new faucet." My mom replied, "Okay. Well, how do you know that it's the faucet? You haven't done anything."
Needless to say they did order a faucet. And then it had been a week and I was like, "When are you guys gonna come and get my new faucet put in?" They said they hadn't even gotten that approved yet and they had to get it approved and then we had to get it ordered. I was like, "Ordered? Excuse me. You're a plumbing company. You have to order a faucet? I could go to Home Depot right now and get the exact same faucet." Finally after two weeks I got a faucet put in but it was a horrible service through them. It was a nightmare. This company that AHS uses needs to be dropped. They were worthless.
One time, my air conditioner went out and AHS sent out an air conditioner guy who comes out and fixes it. He then charges me 250 bucks for freon. I told him that it's covered. He told me that it's not covered and that AHS only pays $10 per unit of freon. So I had to come up with the $200 that I was not expecting. AHS didn't tell me that in the beginning and it was a little disappointing. What they told me was everything was covered. But calling AHS is great. I love them and they've always done their job. It's just that some of the contractors that they have doing their work are horrible.

But the contractor screwed me because he came in and didn't even check the washing machine. Instead, he looked at the drain pipe in the floor and said it was the drain pipe. He told me I needed to cut a whole on my downstairs ceiling in order to replace the pipe which ended up in a $1,100 homeowner's insurance claim. They had four people come out before the issue with the washing machine was resolved.

I spoke to an American Home Shield rep who was very helpful as far as the issue that I had with the air conditioning unit that wasn't getting cool. And with me calling in, I was able to get the name of the person instead of them just giving me someone else that I wasn't familiar with. I told the rep about the ones who had worked on my heater and I would prefer working with them because they were professional and courteous. I told her I preferred that because I don't like to be put in certain situations, and she did everything to make sure I can get back with that company.
When the contractor came out, he showed me basically everything. Unlike how some of them run back there, he didn't try and say, “That isn't the issue” or something like that. It was a step-by-step process of coming into our home, being respectful of our property and not walking in our house without having stuff on their feet. He made sure that I knew what was going on and also allowed me to be there to see the things that was taking place. Since the repair, the AC so far is good. They asked me to watch it and inform them if something else was going on, and to give them or American Home Shield a call just to keep them updated on everything that's going on. Also, the last time I got in with American Home Shield was a very lengthy time to get in with customer service. I set it up on the computer, but that's not personable for me. I have found 4 different contact numbers for this company which is the start of my problem. I purchased the warranty in February to cover all the appliances within my home. When I called to request service to my fridge a tech was sent out and I thought it was repaired. To my dismay it is in fact NOT repair and is now leaking water on the hardwood floor in my kitchen. When I called the service number, yet another number, I was told by Chasity #** (that is the number she gave), the next available was a week away. I am sorry, but, this is an emergency as there is water leaking. So when I asked to speak to a supervisor, Chasity says there is NO supervisor available.
I asked to wait for one to become available, and she further stated that there were in fact no supervisors and that she works by herself. I found this practice to be odd, and ask if I could fill out a quality assurance survey. Apparently, those are not available either. I need an emergency call, to fix my refrigerator so no more damage is done to my kitchen. I guess I will have to go the BBB route and hope it doesn’t take too long.

AHS sent a company, Carolina Air Inc., to fix our A/C. They said we were low on Freon and put in 4 pounds for which they charged us $556.00. I have called other A/C companies, including the one I requested for the service, and they all charged from $90/pound to $105 pound. Why was the company sent by AHS charging $149? As it turns out, after also paying my AHS service charge, this whole episode cost $636. If I had just called the company I requested privately, it would have cost $360. There is something very wrong with this picture.

The contractor that AHS sent out when my air conditioning unit wasn’t cooling was confident and very efficient. He was trying to find the problem because it was obviously not cooling and he inspected everything. He told us what was going on and it turned out it was the weather and not the air conditioning. It was 98 degrees outside and high humidity just overwhelmed the system. He did a very nice job of inspecting and we’ve got the air conditioner under control now.
Having a home warranty is a relatively high monthly payment but it’s worth it and I’ve been trying to get my sons to get one too. There was an issue with the AC. The compressor would come up, the fan would run, and everything else would work except the AC wouldn't cool on the top floor in the house. At the time, my tenants were saying that they had a sick daughter, so it was an urgency that we get somebody out there to get the AC fixed. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and I was heavily disappointed with my experience with them.
Initially, Royal AC came out and said that our refrigerant was low and that we needed to fill it up. So we filled it out and AHS only covered $10 an ounce. I had to pay $250 plus the service fee of the technician that serviced it out of my own pocket. So that was about $125 plus $250 and the tax came out to be 500 bucks, give or take. Tow days later, the AC went out but AHS said that Royal AC would not come out for the rest of the week as they were booked. So they sent out somebody else and I didn't have to pay them.
However, the second contractor said the same thing, which was that they had to get the master technician out because there was a leak and they needed to detect the leak. I told them that we already knew that there was a leak and that they needed to get somebody out there to fix it. Then they said that they were a new air conditioning company for AHS, that was not how they worked, and AHS would have to get somebody else out. So, someone else came out. But they also said that they needed to fix the leak. At first, they said that they were gonna send it out to AHS for observation and after that, they should be able to fix it. I asked how long that would take and they said that in two or three days, AHS should be able to call me back. It was already two weeks out when this process had happened and my tenants and I were not so happy.
Then, AHS came back and said that they don't cover that particular part of my air conditioning system. They also said that in Chapter Five, Section E of my Agreement, they don't cover this particular tubing that takes the coolant from the compressor to the air conditioning system upstairs. I told them that I didn't buy, pick and choose parts on the things that I wanted to be covered or not, I bought the whole policy. But they said that I should have read the policy. In the end, I got everything fixed myself and had to pay for it.

More recently, I requested Hutchinson Pools again because they had been out to my house once before and they were good. Before I called, I had lots of problems and the people AHS sent out were totally not professional. They didn’t show up, didn’t call and it was an ongoing thing. I asked if I could get Hutchinson and they were able to get them out. They worked with me this time.
However, my most frustrating experience was with Royal Heat and Air a few years ago when I had to replace one of my units and AHS covered hardly anything with the air conditioner that cost me $8,000 and then, this time again, $12,000. I’ve been paying American Home Shield for 15 years and I probably paid for whatever I’ve done. My last experience was totally the best, although I had some bad experiences a few years ago and had some absolutely horrible people in the past. I had a company that maintains my pool on a weekly basis. My experience submitting claims with American Home Shield on the website has been fine, although I will oftentimes have a little difficulty with it because I don’t have an app where I try to get it. I end up having to go to my old email to find the email that they have sent to try to get on how to contact them. I would suggest that they have an easier means for me to contact them. Recently the door on the microwave, which is the glass front, was coming loose so we stopped using the unit. The guy from Sears came out, but the issue is still unresolved because they said it needed to have another door and that they would try to find another one. But no one has called me back at all. They said they didn’t know when they could find it or not. The microwave and the oven are one unit together and it's built-in in the wall, so if they don’t get that fixed, it makes my kitchen messed up.
Some of the other technicians that AHS has sent out have been so much on it until I was totally relaxed and confident that it was gonna get taken care of. However, I wasn’t impressed with the technician that recently came out. He was expecting something different and seemed to be a bit befuddled because it was a glass front microwave. The glass door is still sitting off to the side and we still have no microwave. He told us that we could use it without the door on it. I said that wasn't a safe thing to do and it didn't make any sense to tell somebody to do that. We've had a number of service calls that we've needed in the past few months and this is the first one that I was not impressed with how it turned out, especially it being serious. A gentleman from Total Air Care came here on time and he was very knowledgeable and was able to handle the service quickly. The problem was resolved. American Home Shield was recommended to us by family members who've had it and really liked it. We've had the warranty for six months now. I would also recommend that you get it, whether you think you need it or not, because you more likely will.

We called American Home Shield the first time we filed for a claim because we didn’t know how to work with the online thing. Then I did it online the second time. AHS had really good customer service when I spoke with their representative on the phone. The response time was good and I heard from the contractor quickly. The same guy, Clint, came both times for the AC. He was pretty cool and my husband had a good connection with him.

The air conditioner went out on June 8th. The day after the initial call to AHS, the tech came out to say that we needed a new air conditioner. They said within 48 hours I would get a call saying that we had met whatever criteria, which I could understand. I was on vacation and when they called. They said I just needed to call the company. I said I didn't have a piece of paper and asked them to text or email me. They said I had to wait until I get home and I'll have to call them off the paper that the tech left me. It was part of the reason I had to wait a whole week.
When I had gotten home and I called the people who were gonna install the air conditioner and they said I didn't have to call them. American Home Shield had to order it and it takes seven to 10 days. It took almost 15 days. On the day that I found out, it was 110 and my house was unbearably hot. The gal says she could offer me $130 for the wall unit. My house is 4,600 square feet. A wall unit after three and a half weeks doesn’t do me any good. They're coming on Monday and that was a little insulting.
We didn’t get our replacement until July 3rd, a week ago Monday. AHS hired people on the opposite end of town to install the new air conditioning. So whenever they would come, it takes an hour plus to get here. The people who put the air conditioner in were very nice, but I didn’t get any warranty. I received no paperwork on it. I don’t know if there’s any warranty or anything. I tried calling the company back and they said that they would send me a link on my phone, but they haven’t. I’m happy to have an air conditioner, but there is no way I would ever re-up on the American Home Shield warranty or ever renew it.

My experience with American Home Shield regarding the air conditioner problem went very well. It took the contractor a little while to get to me, which was four days, but maybe that was just the situation with a lot of people. The contractor was very good though, very pleasant and he didn’t take long to get the job done. But it was within days of not having the air conditioning fixed when I had some problems with the washer. AHS first sent out an appliance person and he thought he had repaired it. He told me he put a part in it, but the problem continued. When he checked it again, he said I have to have a plumber. So, I got a plumber out.
The plumber came out and he said he was gonna have to do a return visit because he saw that he had to go on the roof. He couldn’t go on the roof without another person being with him as he came alone at that time. He discussed that he could get the job done, but he was gonna have to bring another individual the next day. And then he talked to me about money, but I have been told that I wouldn’t do any transaction with him and that I would only do money through the AHS business office. I told him that, but when he came back and had the individual with him, he requested payment. So, I called AHS to make sure that that was the case, that I wasn’t supposed to pay. And then I told the plumber to contact the business office because they told me to have him contact them. That was the only problem I had and I hope he was not too upset since he wanted a second payment.

The fan in one of the bathrooms was making a horrible noise and sounded like it was gonna explode. I called AHS and spoke to a representative because it was the first time and I wasn’t sure. The customer service I received was good, but the rep had a hard time understanding what I needed. She figured it out though and a contractor came. The electrician came a long way to get here and the time window he gave was open-ended but he stayed in contact with me to let me know he was coming. When he came in he said the fan had a loose part and fixed it quickly. The fan seems to be well fixed and I'm not hearing it spluttering like it’s gonna blow up or fall out anymore. He did great service while he was here, but his prices were really high when I asked him about doing some other work later. I questioned his integrity a little after that. I had the work done by a licensed contractor for half the price. But all in all, I’m satisfied with AHS.

The service and my interaction with the contractor were pleasant. I called the contracting company and then I got the text to verify. Then he called me the next day or later that day to say that he might be able to get out there earlier and if that would be okay. I said yes to that and so he came out. He showed me what the issue was and what the capacitor was. He also explained a couple of other things to me and then he did the repair. It was quick and now everything's fine. American Home Shield was responsive and when I called, my issue was quickly addressed. I have already made recommendations and I sent to someone else their information so he could get a quote.

Recently, the dishwasher was not working correctly so I submitted my claim with AHS over the phone. A guy came in, checked the dishwasher out and he said that it needed a replacement which was shouldered by AHS. He set up an appointment and they brought the new dishwasher. However, they couldn’t install it as it was missing an air gap. It's something they were saying that it's supposed to be going to the outside. My dishwasher was so old, they didn’t have it back then, and now, they want it. And the dishwasher could be installed but he couldn’t do it because of the insurance liability that it doesn’t have that opening.
So now, I have the old and the new dishwasher there and I'm trying to sell the place and I wanted to get the new dishwasher put in. But he said I needed to find out what company it came from and have them come out and install it because he couldn't do it. But he was very nice and very concerned. He told me that once I got somebody to install the new dishwasher, he would be happy to come and pick up the old one for me. I appreciated him. Now, I don't know what I'm supposed to do next. They didn’t make it clear. It seemed like they put it on me to figure out what to do instead of them doing that.

We were texting with the contractor because we weren’t back from the vacation, and he wanted to come before we were gonna be back. He set it up for the very first morning we were back. He was on time and very professional.
The contractor fixed a part and replaced the Freon. That took about two days but two weeks later, my unit just stopped. It said on the AHS website, “Looking to reopen your last claim,” and I clicked on that. They texted me within two hours. It was fast. Also, I liked that AHS gives the option to choose whether I wanted a higher deductible upfront or higher charge. The warranty is very valuable and I recommended it to my brother the other day. I told him American Home Shield was the company that my son had originally recommended to me.

A day before we moved into our new home, the washing machine failed and it ended up costing about $15,000 worth of damage to our house. And then we also had the refrigerator that went out at the same time. Even before we put foods in it, we realized it wasn’t cooling. We submitted our claims with American Home Shield online, and our experience was smooth and easy. We had to have the contractors for the washing machine come out a couple of times. It took a while for them to get the message through to American Home Shield that they were not going to be able to fix it. It really dragged the process out for like six weeks. And it was disappointing. Neither of the washing machine and the refrigerator was repaired so we ended up needing to replace both of them.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed in how unhelpful the people were when I would call to try to get more information or to figure out how to expedite the process. They refused to elevate my request to anyone else and they kind of blocked any questions I had. We were trying to hit a sale because we knew we were probably gonna have to replace the equipment even though the guy hadn't carried the message along. And we couldn’t even get quotes on what American Home Shield would offer for replacement so we ended up just going and buying and hoping that everything worked out right.
There was one time where I spoke to a woman on the phone and I got so mad that she ended up hanging up on me. She flat out refused to help pass the message along. She told me she was gonna have a manager call me back and I got no response. But the guy that I spoke with through the actual appliance repair for both pieces of equipment was topnotch. He remembered me and we had a great conversation. He was really helpful, so I had a very good experience.

The installer seemed to know his work and he got the business and took care of things. Since then, the pumps have been working fine. However, I filed a claim about four months ago for some electrical work and there was one item that the contractor couldn’t repair. I have some of those long lights which would come on and off and would sometimes take a while to do that. The company said that American Home Shield wouldn’t repair them until they completely went out so I wasn’t really happy with that.
Also, there’s still a project that I requested from American Home Shield that hasn’t been taken care of. I was told that two of my bathroom exhaust fans would be repaired or replaced. But the electrical company that came said it would take them about two months to get that part. Two months came, but nothing was done. I called American Home Shield again and told them that nobody has ever come out. The representative said that they would get in touch with the company and if they didn’t call me back or they didn’t call American Home Shield within 48 hours, they would request a different contractor. It’s been over 10 days since I called and nothing. I also called for four items and there were little details why American Home Shield wouldn’t approve them. I’ve got a ceiling fan that wobbles and it looks like it’s ready to come down and there were some reasons that they won’t repair that. I’m considering some other insurance company.

I had an AC company that was originally fixing my AC five years ago and they had to constantly come out to re-fix the AC. But apparently, American Home Shield didn’t like their work because they got rid of them and got another company. So now, I have a different company. I made a call because the unit wasn’t cooling and this is the second time that I've had to have them come out. This has been a problem for some years now and I've stayed with American Home Shield because I believe in them and the people that they've sent out. But my question is always the same. How many service calls would it take to fix the AC compared to replacing it? No one could ever answer me. I’ve been having to pay the service charge of $75 over many years. I could’ve gone on and bought another AC.
When I call in, I make an appointment for whatever system that I have down then I wait until the actual tech comes out for me to meet him there. There’s no sense in me getting upset about the technician. They come out to do their job. I can’t get upset with the person on the phone either because they’re not the ones who's actually coming out to fix things. So I choose to not be upset with anybody. I just do what I have to do to keep things going.
I just want to keep up with my bills to take care of the things that I’m supposed to take care of as a homeowner. When the unit breaks again, I’ll make the call and pay the $75 call-out fee to have the unit re-looked at and whatever part replaced. The last two times, I didn't make the $75 payment because they had to come back out. I’m looking to American Home Shield to take care of what they need to take care. But I’m happy with the service. It’s a good service and the best thing is to keep up your payments, keep them as a company that’s gonna take care of things if something goes bad. It’s better than not having the service, having something go out and spending five thousand dollars to replace it.

I called in to file a claim and Air Pro Masters, AHS's contractor came. They did great and I paid $75 upfront. Their technician was clean, presentable, well spoken, and very efficient. He tested the AC and found no issues.
However, earlier in the spring when I had my water heater die, I paid my $75 to American Home Shield. And when they sent the guy out, the contracting company called me up and told me, “Oh, yeah. We’ll send a guy out but you’re gonna have to send us $350 to get the guy out there.” So I sent him $350. The guy came out here and said, “Oh, look at this. And then he said, “Well, for a water heater, it’s an extra $350.” And then the plumber that came out asked an extra $100. I didn’t think that was the way the home warranty was supposed to work.
But as far as the air-conditioning guy goes, the work itself was excellent. We’ve had that company out here before when my pilot light in my furnace went bad in the winter time. I submitted a claim online to AHS because my dishwasher wasn't working and it was easy navigating through their website. It took two days for the contractor to come out and I had a good interaction with him when he arrived. The issue ended up being the whole motor and he told me what he was putting in. And since the repair, everything has been fine. Having a warranty is very valuable and I've got it as a backup. It's peace of mind knowing that I don't have to worry about the dryer, the air conditioner, the furnace or anything going out on me. I would suggest American Home Shield to my neighbors.
Good morning Brady,

The AC unit froze up and wouldn’t work. Submitting the claim for that was really quick, easy, and painless. I enjoyed working with American Home Shield. The contractor was really nice. He was on the outside and had my daughter and son-in-law on the inside. He had them turn on the air so he could see what was wrong and when he found out what it was, it was great. Though he had to order the part for that, he was back in a day or two and the AC works great now.

The warranty came with the house when we bought it and we used it in our first year. Then we've kept it and we feel that we’ve gotten our money’s worth every year because it’s an older house. We’ve been pleased with American Home Shield and I have also recommended them. Filing a claim is very easy. You call and they tell you they’re gonna send somebody. You pay your $75 then somebody comes and give you a zero bill. Although the people American Home Shield has sent have not been fine sometimes, I have complained and they’ve usually taken care of it.
We don’t like that it sometimes takes a fairly long time to get people to come out. But we live in a tiny community and it’s pretty much a retirement community. There aren’t any worker bees here and we have to get our service from Pensacola or sometimes even Mobile, which is a long way. Recently, the AC wouldn’t run and some switch had to be replaced. It took three days for someone to come out and if we’d had to deal with the heat, three days might have been a little long. But we didn't have to deal with the heat. We have two air conditioners and one is for the upstairs level which is fortunately where our bedroom is. So we just spent time in the upstairs level. The washing machine and dryer are there, and we have a little refrigerator there too.
Plus the guy who came out was very good. American Home Shield won’t pay for a new air conditioner if yours breaks and you haven’t had routine maintenance. But that makes sense to me and I don’t have a problem with that. The guy came from the same company that comes twice a year and does our routine maintenance and they've been very good.

I submitted the claim for my air conditioning unit and AHS had given me the contract information for the repair person who was supposed to come out, but he never did contact. I ended up having to contact him and he told me that he was a little bit overwhelmed because it was hot and everybody’s air conditioner was going out. I had to contact him a few times before we were able to set something up. And when we set up a day he ended up not being able to come so we had to wait another day. But that was our only issue. As far as on American Home Shield’s part, they quickly send somebody. It was just the scheduling thing. Otherwise, the repair person was okay. He came right out and fixed it and we haven't had any issue since. AHS was fairly efficient and mission accomplished. Our air was working in just a few days.

I've had good incidences with everybody I’ve dealt with through American Home Shield. They kept me informed. Now, they changed a little wherein I'm getting more notifications in the form of text messages and emails to tell me that the contractor is on their way or has arrived and then they’ll follow up afterwards. They also update me whenever there's a change to their system, but sometimes I don't pay attention to that. I have had problems with their website, but if I call in, they always help me out and either resolve the issue, put the ticket in for me, or walk me through.
The service has been great from every one of the vendors we’ve had come out too. With my most recent claim, I was having water back up through the AC system and I had a wet floor in my laundry room, and American Home Shield sent World Class AC to come out. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

Our AC unit wasn't running or cooling and we didn't get any air to the dock, so we called AHS to take a look. I submitted the claim by phone once. But the unit kept giving us some issues, so we called them to go back and recheck it, and the claim was done on the web. Filing the claim was easy. The service contractor that came out from Total Air Care was willing to get the stuff done. On the first visit, I wasn't home and he waited for me for about 10 minutes. It was good for them to wait for me because I really needed somebody to take care of the unit. They were also clean and everything went well. They were professional.
When they came for the first time, they told me they found the issue, but I had to call them to come back because the unit was still giving me problems. The second person that came in said that something was left without being connected correctly and that was the reason the unit kept giving me a problem at that moment. That was a human error and it was okay. This is my first home here in the United States and it's the first time dealing with any company like this for an issue in a home, so I'm very pleased with AHS. They are easy to deal with and I'm looking to renew the contract for next year.

My friend told me about American Home Shield and in turn, I try to tell everybody else about it as well. We're always preaching American Home Shield. My only biggest thing was that when I first got American Home Shield, I could actually talk to somebody. But now I can’t. Sometimes I might have two things that need to be done but I don't wanna make two requests. I’d rather talk to somebody and have them do it all at once. In the last couple of times I've called the 1800 number, I've gotten the automatic system. But I’m not very fond of that because when I use it, I would be scared that it didn't work.
So when the house wasn't getting cold and I was filing a claim for the AC, I tried the web for the first time. I got an email and I wanted to see if it worked. But I assumed that I wouldn’t get a phone call until Monday and I was quite surprised that I got a phone call on a Sunday. Then the contractor came out Monday morning, which I was grateful for because it was 100 degrees out.
I got a phone call when the technician was on his way and he was on time. I told him what the problem was and then I let him do his thing. I don’t like to stand over people. Sometimes it makes people nervous. Our interaction was very brief but I let him know that if he needed me, I would be at the front of the house. He fixed the capacitor and he didn’t leave a mess. As soon as he was done, the AC started cooling the house so it was great. He did good. Everything went well and he was in and out in 30 minutes, and I appreciate those types of thing.
Good evening Brandy,

We’ve had some issues with our sump pump backup battery since we’ve moved into our house and we finally put in a claim with American Home Shield a couple months ago to have somebody come out and get it looked at. Thereafter, we had a company come out and see what was going on and they took the backup battery with them. However, we haven’t heard from them in about a month or almost a month and a half. I finally got a hold of them and they said they didn’t have the correct phone number or e-mail address to get in contact with us that’s why they never called back to schedule it. We finally scheduled something for them to come back, but I’m not sure whether they replaced it or just fixed it. Shortly after they have left, it started acting up again so we had them come back to look at it once more and the guy seemed puzzled and was gonna give the feedback to American Home Shield through the portal. We haven’t heard from him yet.
But in between all that, we had a different claim for the sump pump and the same company had come out. There was something clogged in our actual pump that they were able to replace. We dealt with the same company quite often. However, the communication has been a little nonexistent in terms of us feeling like we always have to follow up and see when they’re gonna come and fix it for us.
Submitting the claim is fine. It’s easy to get a hold of American Home Shield when I need to do a recall or get them to come to talk and do business for us. The interactions with the contractor sent out were okay in the beginning. They may have gotten annoyed with us because they’ve seen seven or eight times, but it’s the business and they’ve got a contract, so they got to do it. I was talking to one of American Home Shield's representatives earlier about following up with the contractor because we haven’t heard from them in about a month.
But, other than that, we’ve submitted many claims through American Home Shield and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the other million things that we’ve gotten repaired in our house. The portal is easy, although I would much rather talk to a live representative when dealing with some of the issues that we have. I’ve been on hold anywhere from five minutes to 30 minutes when calling in to try to talk to a customer representative. But when I get a hold of somebody, they’re fast and they get a resolution. However, calling in can be a little tedious and sometimes the service provider feels the same way when they’re out here trying to do a repair. This one company has been giving us more issues than the other one we’ve had ever.
We have been very grateful to have a warranty company within our first year of home ownership. Lots of the times, it has come in handy. The output cost of not having a warranty company would be much higher than what we’ve paid so far. I would recommend American Home Shield. Things have gotten fixed in a timely manner and we’re happy and we don’t plan on switching for years to come. However, there could be a few improvements in communication between the actual companies and the contractors and with the customers and American Home Shield. Sometimes, I don’t feel like the circle is complete and there’s a lot of following up on the customer’s side to get some resolutions. The claims are always taken care of one way or another. I don’t have to wait in those cases a long time for a resolution. I’ve been satisfied with the orders that we’ve put in and got things fixed.

The furnace wasn’t putting out any heat and the initial request for service was through online. The online site is very friendly. It's significantly faster than calling them, where there is a long wait time. And it has not been super helpful when we phoned in. Last year, the country kind of had that whole outbreak where it was bitterly cold in the northeast and we had no heat in our house for nine days because American Home Shield didn’t submit the claim when we first put it in. It was New Year’s and it was a whole series of no one working and unavailability, and it was a long period of having one very cold house. We were worried about losing pipes.
We ended up calling the contractors directly and we've learned that the much faster way to get things done is to submit the claim with American Home Shield, but as soon as we knew who it was that has been assigned, we called them directly to get on their calendar because they don’t seem to respond to American Home Shield as quickly as they do to a homeowner. The techs were great. During the deep cold, it took them three days to repair the unit because they had to order a couple of parts. Nevertheless, after the repair, everything has been fine. However, I will tell others to get some competitive quotes and see if they can find someone else.

I've been a loyal customer of American Home Shield for six straight years and I've submitted many claims online. That process is easy. But most recently, I met three different contractors for the same dishwasher issue. The first one serviced me right away but they never called American Home Shield to recommend that I get a new dishwasher. I ended up getting assigned to a new company and waiting another ten days for them to come out.
When they came out, they said they could fix the dishwasher. We had to wait three weeks for them to get a part and then they said they didn’t have all the parts. After another week of me arguing, I finally realized they had the parts to fix it. They just didn’t have a rack so I was angry. On top of that, although they're called United Services of Arizona, they're in Atlanta, Georgia. So I had to make my phone calls to them before 2 PM my time because that is 5:00 in Atlanta and if I called after that, I couldn’t get a hold of anybody. That was really annoying. Even when the guy came out, it turned out that, as a matter of fact, he couldn’t fix the dishwasher. His suggestion was to put two seals on top of each other where you can get a bunch of molds and cause a whole bunch of problems. I thought that was a bad solution so I said no.
American Home Shield gave me a third company, Triple J. They were the final company I worked with and they would be my preferred company to work with in the future. They said that my machine was completely messed up and could not be fixed. They went ahead and suggested that I get a new one. But there is a cabinet next to the dishwasher and the plug needed to be a little longer, and their personal office policy is that they don’t do anything behind the cabinet so they refused to install the dishwasher for me. So I paid my own plumber to come out and install it.
The problem is that my brand new GE dishwasher, that I paid $258 to upgrade, is broken. When I called American Home Shield, they said that it was not their problem and that it's under the GE warranty. I don’t want a GE warranty though. I want a dishwasher that works. I didn’t buy a refurbished dishwasher. I bought a brand new dishwasher and if it doesn’t work when it was delivered and they have to fix it, that’s considered refurbished. I don’t want GE to come out and fix it. I want the dishwasher taken away and I want my money back. But American Home Shield told me that I didn’t buy the dishwasher from them and that I bought it from GE. But GE said they didn’t get any money and my credit card says I processed it through American Home Shield. AHS won’t give me my money back and GE won’t take the dishwasher back. GE won’t give me a location that I can deliver the dishwasher to either.
Apparently, my cash in lieu of replacement from American Home Shield would have been $376 and I want that. But American Home Shield said that they’ve already bought me a new dishwasher and it was over. But they bought me a broken one on which we both chipped in. GE let us all down but I'm the person who's still suffering. I'm now about 10 weeks into a broken dishwasher.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have an AC company that I work with outside of American Home Shield and they didn’t do a good job of identifying what the situation was. They thought the coil had a leak and the technician said that American Home Shield will most likely cover it.
I called American Home Shield and it was something minor that needed to be fixed. It was on the outside unit. The line was leaking and the tech was able to find that with the pump spray. He sprayed the line and he saw a bubble, so it had nothing to do with the coil. It was the line outside. The guy did a great job and identified it and it wasn’t that serious as we thought it was. I find the warranty very valuable. I’m paying for it monthly but it is better to have it because it’s hard to find people that do these things. And it takes my time to check here and there. Also, if I have some major repair, it’s a lot of money out of pocket at once. So the warranty helps me to pay only $75. I would recommend American Home Shield very highly. The claims process was fine but I’ve had nothing but trouble since then. The AC company that was sent out broke the drain pan but denied it. I had a leak through my ceiling and they’re not taking responsibility for it. My upstairs AC was running intermittently and it would turn off. If the drain pan had been broken and there was a leak prior, it would have been pouring through my ceiling before. So I’m furious. I’ve called and called but I’ve been hung up on and there’s been no resolution. I filed this claim over a month ago and my house is still not right.
There was one lady who was great. She sent an email to someone who was going to research it but I never heard anything back. When I finally called back again, I waited over an hour to get someone on the line but the call dropped and nobody called me back. I called back again a few days later. I talked to Michael and although I was extremely frustrated, he dealt with me fine and was very nice. I told him I was sorry for the way that call went but it was still not corrected. He reached out to the department concerned but they said that the the owner of the company said they were not responsible because I needed a float switch. But they showed me where the float switch was and the pan that wasn’t busted is where the float switch should be, and there wasn’t any water in there. So whether it was a float switch or not, it woudn’t matter.
I’ve contacted another AC company and they said that the company that American Home Shield sent were trying to screw me over. They verified what I already thought within hours of this guy coming and putting in a motor in my upstairs unit. Now, American Home Shield is telling me that I need two pounds of refrigerant for a busted drain pan. That’s $130 but it was supposed to be a motor that they fixed. There’s no refrigerant needed for a motor. On top of that, I had to pay $65 for a float switch and $100 for the service call. I’m over it.
The company was found so that they could get the drain pan but American Home Shield required them to have it shipped. That was weeks ago and I still don't have a drain pan so I can’t turn on my upstairs AC. It’s over 80 degrees and I can't sleep like that. I have dogs and kids too. Then it’s 77 downstairs and my downstairs unit won’t turn off because it’s still hot up there. I’m also gonna have to pay out the funds for my electric bill since the downstairs AC is running non-stop.
Michael was still waiting on the department and he said he would give me a call back once he receives further clarification. But that was two days ago and there’s no resolution whatsoever. Nobody’s taking responsibility and saying, “Hey, we sent out a crappy company. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. I’m sorry it’s still not fixed a month later.” This is a company that American Home Shield sent out to my house but they aren't doing a single thing about it. They said that they're not responsible and that I can talk to the owner. But that doesn’t help me.
I told American Home Shield that I will not be renewing my contract. This is my first and only experience with them and it has been the absolute worst ever. I've paid them $600 for the year and now additional money that I could have paid somebody else because there’s nothing that’s getting done. If I were dealing with another company myself, I already could have had this done. It shouldn’t take over a month. I’m going to be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because this is absolutely crap. I will also tell people I know not to use American Home Shield because of the type of treatment they give.
Updated on 08/08/2018: I was then contacted by supervisor Mariah **. She said they would do what was needed to get this corrected for me. She authorized me to use an outside company to look into getting this repaired more quickly. I contacted American Air. They charged a service fee of $117.95. I was told I would be reimbursed for that service fee and for the stand up AC unit I purchased. I sent her the diagnosis report for American Air and was told they would only cover $1500 per unit. Then was told since their company, Keith Powell, only diagnosed the upstairs unit, they would only reimburse $1500 total. She then sent an expedited request to Certified Heating and Cooling to come out to my home. Certified stated the downstairs unit was not running properly and needed a new coil. The upstairs unit needed a new drain pan.
It has been over 9 weeks since I have had AC in my home. It has been over 80 degrees in my home since 06/04. I have made over 30 phone calls and spent countless hours trying to get this taken care of. I have tried to contact Mariah ** via email and phone and she will not answer nor return calls or emails. She stated the reimbursement request was processed on 07/17/18 and would take 7-10 business days to receive the reimbursement. It has now been over 15 business days and I have not received the reimbursement check yet. I have requested to speak with a supervisor numerous times and was told no one would speak with me because I was "working with" Mariah **.
I have done everything in my power and jumped through every hoop that AHS has required. I am still without air. It has almost been 10 weeks. I am afraid they are trying to wait until my contract is out to do something. I told them I would not be renewing on 09/03/18 because of the way this has been handled and my issue is still not resolved.

I wasn’t too happy with him because the gentleman delayed submitting the claim to American Home Shield and I was thinking what was going on because it has been two weeks. I haven't heard anything so I called American Home Shield and they told me that the guy didn't submit the claim until the 23rd. I was not impressed with them at all. My stove still isn’t working and I just placed the order a couple of days ago so, I'm still waiting for them to deliver my appliance. Because of that, I’ve been going out for dinner more often.
Most of the time, the issue is fixed and for replacements, you can either choose what American Home Shield has to offer or you can go and purchase your own and then get reimbursed. AHS is awesome but sometimes, the contractors aren't the best in the world like the McMillan Construction guy. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield.
