I've been with AHS for seven months now. I like their price and amount of coverage. Submitting a claim has been excellent. We had a toilet tank spring a leak on a Friday, and the plumber was out to repair it on Tuesday, which is a fast turnaround, and he did a good job.
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to thank you for choosing us as your warranty provider. Your feedback is appreciated. We’ll be here when you need us. Have an amazing week.

We're having issues with our air conditioning unit. It wasn't pumping any air. All the lines were freezing over. I went online and I submitted a claim with AHS. The turnaround time was quick, about 24 hours. The techs didn't have the parts, but they fixed it that day. They were very quick. Having AHS is worth it. One thing I don't find particularly easy to get to is one of the features that are offered with discounted air filters. That's not particularly easy. But I don't wanna take away too much from them for that.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

For my recent claim with AHS, my washing machine doesn't work properly. The claim process was very easy. American Home Shield has done wonderfully because they sent someone right away. They tried to fix it, but it wasn't fixed. I told them, they sent them out again, but it wasn't fixed again. So they changed companies to try and help me fix it. They came out. I only paid once and these guys are coming again today and that'll be the fifth time that someone's trying to fix my washing machine. But every time I've called AHS, they have been quick, efficient, and very nice on the phone and quick to help. I've never had a problem with them ever and been with them for many years.

The repairman was able to solve the problem with the AC. It was running constantly and it never turned off no matter what temperature it was set at. It required some parts and he replaced those parts. The service was completed satisfactorily. I've been an American Home Shield customer for a long time and for the most part, they're sending quality technicians. I'm pleased. But it would be nice to get the same vendor back which is not doable. Also, it's expensive, and I'm anxious and open to figure out how to get a discount based upon my years of longevity. The price is going up and up, and I would like to see the rates not keep going up. In some years, I use it extensively, and in other years, I don't have any service calls at all. But overall, I'm satisfied.
Dear Alan, We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

For my recent claim with AHS, I had an electrical issue. I had a breaker that was popping. Submitting a claim for it was very easy. It didn't take but a few seconds to get it all done. The tech was very knowledgeable and looked it over and he made a very simple solution to fix the problem. It was the breaker itself had a little gap in it, which was arching across. It was very professional, sophisticated and easy to fix.

The tech who came in and fixed our air conditioner was a nice young man. We're very happy. There was water overflowing inside the pan. So, he cleaned that and he made sure it won't do it again. He did a good job. The AC works fine now. It was good service. I've also had American Home Shield in my house in California the last 15 years. So, that means I'm happy.

American Home Shield is worth the money. They’re efficient and it's easy to get to their online service. I saved the email and I just go back to the same email, click "Need an appointment”, and it doesn't take them long to get me somebody. We've used them them once for the washer and twice for the air conditioner. The air conditioner claim was by two different companies, and they both were great. The last repairman fixed the air conditioner right off the bat, and I have had no problem since. He was very knowledgeable and punctual. The washing machine guy was really good. He came back the next day to make sure it was still doing what he thought it should do.
When I first did American Home Shield, I was told that once a year, you'd get your air conditioner and heater serviced for free. If you had septic tanks, they would come out and do that too. When I did the air conditioner and heater service, I couldn't understand the lady very well because she didn't speak American English. She told me that there was no tech in this area that would do that for me, and if I'd go ahead and get it done, that they'd pay $100 of it. But that's not what the agreement said. Other than that, would I recommend American Home Shield. It could be cheaper, though. When we first started, it was $75. Now, it's gone up a little bit but it hadn't gone up too bad.

We had two claims at the same time, but I submitted them separately. They were very prompt at getting back with us. We had one with the washing machine and another for the dishwasher. They wouldn't drain. The dishwasher had not been draining for a couple of months and my husband was gonna call, but he didn't. So, I submitted them together when the washing machine quit. I just put it online and they contacted me and told me the name of the company that would be coming out and the company contacted me. It was easy. We got a name, a number and a date and time.
The washing machine guy was great. He did what he needed to do. He ordered a part and when the part came in, he contacted us again. The washing machine went super smoothly. The other one was the dishwasher and the part wasn't available. So, they had to replace the whole thing, which the person that came out was very nice. He was gonna look for the part was what we knew when he left, and then I got an email telling me the part wasn't available and we had to pick from some machines for this much money. So, we picked one. We were given about five choices within a reasonable price range and many more if we wanted to pay a whole lot of money.

My refrigerator quit working for the third time in 15 months and the same company came out three times and needed to replace the compressor. They were great every time that they came out. They were on time, they made the appointment, kept the appointment, and were quick at coming in and out of the home and repairing the project. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I used my computer and logged the issue with them. The process was super easy. We had to get a new refrigerator, and it's functioning fantastically. We got to pick out our own. American Home Shield didn't say my refrigerator was broke. They said that it would cost 460 to fix it and that they could give me the 460 to put toward a new refrigerator. So, that was what we did.
I would have preferred them saying the refrigerator couldn't have been fixed and giving me more money, but I appreciate the fact that they at least gave me the option to not fix it since this is the third time. I used them for probably 10 years in our last home. And then when we moved into this home, I used a couple of others and ended up wanting to go back because I felt like I had the best service from them. Also, they've been around for a very long time and they've been true to their word and we've been satisfied.

I had a very bad experience because of the contractors. They didn't fix our oven for more than a month, and I had to waste hours and hours of my time to get the contractors. In the end, we had to travel and we had to turn off the gas because it was leaking. American Home Shield sent someone proper to fix it, but it was after we came back, a month and a half after that first month, so two and a half months later. American Home Shield should review all of their contractors. I'm in D.C. area, so especially here, because, mostly, they are not so good. They should lower the copay as well. They charge $100, while all the other insurances charge $70.

My air conditioner only came down to 77 degrees, then it stopped. It was running, but it didn't cool anymore. I did a service request via email, then it was submitted and someone called the next day, which was a Sunday. The service person came out on Monday and added more freon in. He said, "It should work now," but he could not guarantee it that it would be forever or if the problem was fixed. It will probably leak again. He said, "The system is old." I know it's old, but it's still working.

I jumped online and made the claim right there. I love how easy it was. Within 12 hours, I got a call saying that American Home Shield would send someone out, which they did. The guy gave me a heads-up that he was on his way, showed up, looked at the water heater right away, and immediately knew that it would have to get replaced based on his observations. He made a call. The next thing I knew, my insurance called me and let me know what options I had.
They said we were qualified for a new water heater, which they would replace. What I didn't agree with was they would have to notify the city to get a water line permit and a bunch of other permits that would cost me 600 out of pocket, even though a brand new water heater costs $700. When I told the rep, “Absolutely not. I'm not paying the city to have a permit for a water line when I'm not replacing a water line,” she said she understood. I said, “I can just go buy a whole new water heater and get it installed for free.” She said, “If you do that, let us know. And we'll give you the money back for the water heater.”
I can understand if I will replace a whole bathroom or a whole water line, but this is a water heater. I unscrewed two hoses after I turned the water off and replaced the water heater itself. When I talked to the technician that came out, he laughed and said, “Yeah. I see that. You made the right decision by just doing it yourself.” I said, “I'm not paying $600 for the city to come out and then have to do an inspection.” And I don't know how long that whole process would have taken. That was pointless.

When American Home Shield sends someone out, it seems it takes them forever to get the part. The contractor has to give the report back to American Home Shield, and American Home Shield has to get the parts before the contactor can come out and fix it. The refrigerator was a long time. I called it in the 12th of September, and they came out the 11th of October. But it's not the technician’s fault. It's American Home Shield trying to get the parts quicker.
I used to have Choice, and they were really pitiful. American Home Shield is a whole lot better, and I've recommended them to a bunch of people. They answer my questions and do what they need to do. I like talking to people because you can get your point across, like what's going on. When you're online, you gotta type in this and that. But when I'm on the phone, they always ask me three, four times if there is something else they can do to help me. The price is a little high, but I understand because when they ask if you've got anything else that need to be repaired and there's more, then it's a little bit lenient.
Hi Vince,

I thought I liked The Appliance Superheroes, but between them and American Home Shield, I haven't heard anything back as far as what's happened with my repair. I'm assuming I'm awaiting on parts. But usually, Superheroes is fairly good at keeping me informed with what is going on. They had been in the past which was the reason I requested them. This is the first time that I've ever had to wait this long for the people that have come out to look at my stuff to get the parts. But they themselves told me that they're having a lot of problems with American Home Shield approving the repairs.
Recently, it takes them at least a week to get any information from American Home Shield whether they're gonna get paid or not. Then it takes them a couple of days to find out where the parts are and how much they cost before they can give that to American owned Shield. I know it's going to be a week or two before I hear from anybody and that's about where I am right now on the process of them getting back to me with what's going on. That process used to only take a couple of days. 10 years ago, they used to be able to buy the parts and fix it and not have to worry about American Home Shield not paying them. Today they have to worry about not being paid.
American Home Shield's rates have gone up drastically as well. I started with them over 10 years ago, and their rates have tripled. I'm very disappointed in that. I was in the process of starting to go through other companies to see how much their rates are. Also, when I call American Home Shield on the phone, that usually takes me a long time to get them. This time, I got lucky because it only took me 20 minutes before I was able to talk with somebody. In the past, I've spent half an hour or longer on the phone, waiting for somebody to answer. This is the first time I had somebody that spoke decent English too.

American Home Shield is worthless. I'll never do business with them again. Their lack of empathy and desire to move things forward in an expeditious manner is unbelievable. They just don't care. I had to speak to a manager or somebody in a supervisory role but there was nobody available. To allow people to sit out in the wind for five to seven days for something, that if I called any other plumber locally could have had solved in 48 hours, is ridiculous. The plumber was fantastic to work with but was limited based on what AHS is willing to do and at what speed.

American Home Shield used to be good, but it has gone downhill. The price has gone up and coverage has gone down these past couple of years. Also, AHS couldn't get anybody to come out. When they show up, it would be four days later after they put the request in, because they couldn't find anybody who wants to take the bid from AHS because they pay little. They are the bottom of the barrel and take whatever comes to them.
This last time didn't go well. AHS denied the claim because they said it was not covered under the warranty, which is incorrect when the part that broke is in the air conditioning and they said it was not covered because they took the word of a tech who came out and didn't want to fix anything. He tried to sell me a new air conditioning unit. AHS said, “If you do a second opinion, we're gonna charge you a trip charge.” I had somebody else come out, and I said, “That's not happening. I'll dispute the charge.” That was the end of it. The AC is still not fixed.

The tech from TSA Appliance was great. He's been out here before and I had a really good experience with him both times. He resolved everything we needed him to resolve. American Home Shield hasn't been great. One very big frustration with the company is it is really hard to get ahold of somebody that knows what you're talking about. There's no way to contact. I have one number that I call and I'm still not up to the person I need to speak to. We've done this three times in the last two weeks. It's very frustrating. They don't have complete contact. On their website, they have a chat thing, but there's nobody to call.
On the website, all you can do is start a claim, then they'll get with you about when they're coming out and who's coming out and it's really basic stuff. If you have a problem, the website doesn't help at all. This latest time that they came out and worked on an appliance, they replaced one. The first one they sent didn't fit. So, I'm having a hard time. It's been two weeks ago back and forth and I'm still not really getting ahold of the person we need. We are probably gonna keep AHS. Everything else that went on, they've been good.

I did a claim for the shower and the bathtub fixture that was leaking. The contractor was very good but American Home Shield denied the claim. I'm paying for the fixture. When that fixture broke, we had to put something on there so that the water didn't spray and leak all over. American Home Shield decided that that meant somebody had already worked on it, but that wasn't true. It was just a stopgap to get that done so that I wouldn't have a great disaster. In the past, I used the phone to contact them. But often it takes a long time to get anybody and sometimes the contractors are not very good. I have done American Home Shield for many years but I'm thinking of stopping it because my monthly payment has gone up and I have to pay a $100 co-payment. Before, I had $75 on my monthly payment then we went up to $99. Now, it's $147 and I don't understand why. At this point, I'm very dissatisfied.

Intercity Plumbing was great but it seems American Home Shield has gone downhill. They're hit-and-miss. We've had them for over 20 years but unfortunately, I have had a couple of instances more recently where the service providers that are sent out aren't very qualified. They are not buttoned up and professional. I had a service repair call for my fridge. The first person didn't show up so they had a second person scheduled, and they took care of it. But it's not easy to get people on the phone and when you get people on the phone, sometimes it's not very easy to speak with them. I've been starting claims online and it's easier.
If you have American Home Shield and something that is covered goes out, they'll replace it. But they give you such a hard time about replacing something. A couple of years ago, in our old house in Oregon, the fridge went out. It was not repairable but American Home Shield didn't wanna give us a new, comparable fridge. We had to go through all the begging, the paperwork and the arguing and the debating to finally get something decent and comparable in its place.
I have two contracts on two different houses, and I'm thinking of letting go of one of them. It's getting more and more expensive and I've paid a lot for the contract but it's not worth the money. I’d rather pay out of pocket and hire somebody who I know is gonna be good quality and show up versus to be at the mercy of American Home Shield and who they're contracted with.
I had one issue in my Oregon property. I had somebody that was sent out for a tankless water heater who had never seen the unit before. They tried to give me a hard time telling me it was working fine and charging me for it. I had to go and get a tankless water heater specialist on my own. In the California house, most recently, I scheduled somebody to come on one of my days that I'm in town. I waited and waited. Not only did they not show up, but the company on the phone also couldn't even articulate what was going on as to why the person didn't show. It was ridiculous.
When we bought our older property, we knew that the AC was older in this property. I knew it would go out eventually during my American Home Shield contract. But the thought of having to deal, beg and negotiate with American Home Shield to get a decent-quality AC is not worth it. They don't wanna give anything so I went and replaced it myself.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

My repairs are done very quickly. Normally, it's within a day or two. Sometimes, for plumbing issues, it's three or four days. It depends on how busy they are at the time. But with the AC unit, that was a different thing. We needed parts and they had to order them so it took a week or two. Once the parts arrived, they did it. But I had to pay most of the money because I wasn't covered completely with American Home Shield. Also, originally, it was $80 that I pay. But it's gone up now to $108. I'm happy with the vendor but I'm a little unsatisfied with American Home Shield. I've been having issues with my air conditioner and wanted resolution. I wanted to escalate the process. At what point do we say, “This is ridiculous. We have to take it up to the next level”? When do we stop trying to fix the same thing over and over and truly address the root cause? But I kept being told that I hit as far as I could so I wasn't happy with that. My rate’s gone up but the customer service has gone down.
For the most part, I've had some great vendors come out. But when I deal with American Home Shield. directly and I need to speak to somebody qualified who really understands the process and what's going on, I don't get that person. I'm stuck in the call center with somebody reading from a script which is very unhelpful. I've had good experiences with AHS, for the most part. There are a few things that have come up. But I like them or I wouldn't have kept it. Usually, I get a call back right away when submitting a claim. Bot when I've used them in the two times before, Archer, had always been a little late in getting back to me. So I would just text him and ask.
For my recent claim, I had gotten a new filter thing two years ago and the gauge part of it started leaking. The tech came out and put a new gauge on it. Now, it's working well. However, I just put in another request because I've got some leaking now in the plumbing in the joints where the PVC pipe is connecting it. Before the gauge got fixed, it caused some issues that made it start leaking. I'm waiting for a call back from him right now.

I’ve been a customer of AHS for a long time. I first dealt with American Home Shield in 2008 in Las Vegas, and I moved to Phoenix and I had it out there around 2010. Then back in Vegas again, I signed up. What I like about the service is it provides the full gamut of what I need as far as protection for my home and it’s at a reasonable price. The only thing I'd like to see improve is they add more services. But for a homeowner, it is essential because filing a claim against your home insurance is suicidal. You need something like American Home Shield to take care of your emergency situation. Their website has been easy to navigate. Orion Appliance came out recently and the tech was very friendly and cordial. He went right to work and took care of the issue fairly quickly. Right after he finished, I tested the latch of the microwave out and it worked fine. It's held up so it's like nothing was ever wrong with it.

There are two access points to get to the faucet, and he said that that wasn't good enough and that he needed to replace the whole bathtub. Then it went from $400 to $8,000.
The bathtub is built into the wall. I have an access point from the outside of the house, and I had to cut part of the sheetrock on the interior wall out because it was leaking into my bedroom. I had to take the handles off the faucet just to get the water to stop. He said, “Well, since you touched it, there was preexisting work done, I can't touch it because I can't be responsible if something goes wrong.” I said, “All I did was take the handles off to get the water to stop running into my bedroom. I can stick them back on.” He said, “No. It's too late. I've already seen it. And I've already taken pictures.” This is the second time he's been in our house for stuff that he didn't get anything done.
I asked American Home Shield for a second opinion. They were unable to send somebody else. I guess they don't have any other plumbers in my area. So, they just said, “No. We can't do it. We're gonna have to not do the claim. You're on your own.” They said I'm entitled to a second opinion. So, I was waiting for Home Shield to call me back. A week went by and I called them. They finally called back and said, “Well, we can't find anybody to give you a second opinion.” I said, “Well, what am I supposed to do? Well, I'm gonna need my $100 charge back.” They said, “Okay. We'll give you that back,” which I didn't received yet.
I tell myself every year that I'm gonna cancel American Home Shield because not one claim that I've had has ever been taken care of. I am just waiting to get my $100 back and probably gonna cancel. My faucet is still leaking right now. It's just running. I would tell other people not to sign up. I would tell them all the experiences that I've had, and I would say, “Do not do it. Not worth it.”
I hate to hear your experience has caused some frustration. I would love to assist with unresolved claims and concerns. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield went smoothly. Submitting a claim was very easy. However, I also had a claim for the washing machine and I did not like the contractor. The guy was rude. But they ended up switching them and the washing machine has been working fine since the repair.

Mr. Appliance was worthless. The tech did not return calls. He did not communicate with me very well. He started off good, but then the parts took forever, and then he didn't call me when he did get it, and he didn't come in to repair it. When he got here, he didn't tell me what was going on with it. It was not a good experience and it took forever and no one else would come. When I called American Home Shield about it, they tried to call them as well and they didn't answer their phone calls, they didn't leave messages with AHS, and AHS told me they didn't report timely to them. We should have just canceled it right upfront with him because of what was happening and we should have hired a new person to take over because they did not do what they needed to do and it took me eight to nine weeks to get a new washing machine. It should not have happened.
American Home Shield knew what was happening because when I called them, they said, "Well, let us try to call them." They tried to call them and the same thing happened to them. Mr. Appliance wouldn't answer the phone. They did not report what the situation was for them. AHS needed to know that diagnosis and where we were at with the problem. It was a big mess. I hated it. I waited too long and I had to find places to wash my laundry and it was an inconvenience for everybody around.
Mr. Appliance came in timely but they didn't follow through. The machine was leaking water. So, they told me there was some problem with the motor area and they were gonna replace a piece. They didn't know how much damage was there, but they would do their best and get what they needed. They got the part in there, and then the motor wasn't working. The tech said, "Well, we're gonna try to replace this piece of the motor." That was six weeks in. The tech said, "I guess this is not gonna work. We just can't spend that much money," which was another issue. My washing machine is a $1,200 machine and Mr. Appliance said it was gonna cost $800 to fix it.
I said, "Well, I would be surprised if Home Shield would repair that." They decided to go ahead and fix it but now, they have only given me a $600 machine. I'm thankful for a new machine, but I did not get the amount of value of my machine. The lady at Home Shield said that that was common. She said, "We do not match brands. We only match appliance." I don't know why they didn't compensate me sooner. Why would they fix it for $800 and then only replace it for 600?
Most of the time, I have fairly good luck with the technicians. This one was just a bad one. It was the worst. I had about a four-week experience one time with my refrigerator, but this one was terrible. American Home Shield seems overall good. I was divorced and I needed help with my things around the home. I wish they were more timely. A lot of the contractors in my area don't pick up the Home Shield program. Mr. Appliance was over 30 minutes away. That was half of the tech's problem. He didn't wanna come as frequently because he had to drive. The cost to repair the machine just overcame what was worth it for him. AHS needs to do more marketing in the Iowa area to pick up the program so that the customers have more of a variety and choice of who to go to.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience. If there is anything else we can do for you, please send us an email at consumeraffairs@ahs.com. Have a great day.

Reliable Garage Doors came Monday, inspected the issue and said it needed to be replaced. They came Thursday and replaced it. It was prompt unlike my other service calls. Our dryer went out and it was the electrical board. It took American Home Shield seven weeks to tell us that we could get a new one. There was no urgency on their part. I have eight people living in my house and I had to have a dryer. I had to go through their R and D Department to make sure they couldn't fix it. It was the most ridiculous runaround I got between the service company, Sears Appliance Repair, and American Home Shield, and it was in the summer time. We could wash and hang dry some stuff, but we had to take the laundry to dry at a laundry service. Four weeks in, I went and bought a dryer and waited for American Home Shield to reimburse me, because I couldn't go anymore without one.
I didn't tell them I bought it already. I waited until I got the approval. Then I sent them the receipt that I had already purchased a dryer, and they reimbursed me. But not for what we had paid because they wanted me to buy out through their company, which would have been fine if it had been a timely manner. The dryer we bought was a little bit more expensive than the one that they had for sale, which was fine 'cause I just upgraded our dryer to something a little bit different. It was less than $100 difference and that mainly was the cost of the dryer cord and the delivery, which I probably would have to pay for out of pocket anyway.
Whenever we needed appliances fixed, they use A&E Appliance Services at Indianapolis who are always double weeks. When our ice maker in our fridge went out, they had to come out, diagnose it, and order the part. The parts didn't come on time so they had to push back the appointment. It took three and a half weeks, from the time the guy ordered the part till they came to put it in.
Every time we try to call American Home Shield, it's 45 minutes of waiting for somebody. Then they just transfer you around to other people. I spent an hour and a half on the phone trying to get an answer on why our dryer wasn't getting replaced - 45 minutes waiting for a call, waiting to talk to somebody, and 45 minutes of getting the runaround. It was aggravating to say the least.
I wish I could choose to pick my own repair person 'cause we have local places in Newcastle where we live that can do the work quicker than I can get Sears out there. I'd even be willing to pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed. I've done before with one repair we had to do where they couldn't find somebody to do it. I had somebody do it, paid out of pocket and got reimbursed. I would rather do that than deal with the headache of trying to get them to schedule it and have their person come and do it. But they have to go through their contractors. The last guy that came and worked on the dryer came from Cincinnati, which is almost three hours away.
We recommend American Home Shield to people we know because it is a nice service to have. I tell people that their customer service is not the greatest but it gives you peace of mind on your stuff. I don't have to worry about my refrigerator completely dying on me and not having the money to buy a new one. They cover a lot of items in your house and usually they take care of it. They're also reasonably priced on the monthly fee and the deductible that you have to pay. But hopefully, they lower their prices ‘cause I need to save every penny I can. I wish the deductible was half. We had some repair for the microwave. It was only $180 for them to repair it and I paid $100 of that.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. AHS apologizes for not meeting your expectations. If your concerns regarding your claim is unresolved, please send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

I called American Home Shield later in the morning and they said that a company was gonna call. They called shortly after and said that their guy could do it in an hour and a half that day 'cause he had all his appointments done. Our kitchen faucet was also leaking and he also came the same day and had it fixed within half hour. I just had him replace the whole faucet with one of the old-fashioned hot/cold knobs. I could have gotten the part but it would have taken another week then he would have to come back and put it on.
We had the garage door spring broke and they had that fixed within an hour. They put a new cable on it 'cause the repairman saw what was wrong as he was changing the spring. But the cable wasn't covered so I paid for that. Also, I had a claim for my washing machine but they couldn't get the part for three months. They always gave me the excuse that was because it was during the pandemic. I told them I needed a machine as I wash a load almost every day. I asked if I could go out, buy one and get reimbursed. They finally did that after I called them a few times.

The furnace stayed on constantly and wouldn't turn off. A repairman came out and was there for 40 minutes. He tore the furnace apart and he came to find out that it was a fuse that went bad. He replaced the fuse and the furnace worked fine after that. I've seen his Google reviews, and they didn't really look that great. But when he came out, he took care of the job for me just fine. He didn't show up on time, which is ok because I understand that they have other people to attend to. He told me he'd be there around 12:00 but didn't show up until about five o'clock. But when he showed up, he got straight to work. He got it done quickly and in a timely manner. He got it fixed that day. He was professional and seemed to be very knowledgeable as well.
So far, American Home Shield has been good. It's been easy to operate. But something that I would recommend is emergency calls. I had something that I needed somebody to respond right away. But American Home Shield was not able to respond super quickly on something in that matter. The contractors don't come out until the next day or two days later. That's not a good thing if you have a water break. I understand emergency calls are more expensive. But when I need somebody, I need somebody. Even if it was an extra charge, I don't care. I just need somebody out. Also, when I purchased my package for my duplex, it doesn't allow me to say both of my units on American Home Shield's website, like A and B. It only says my covered property is A so if I have work that needs to be done in B, the contractors always go to A.

We were not happy with the air conditioning people that came out. I got the impression that they didn't like interacting with their customers. When I was trying to ask questions, I was told that they didn't have time to answer my questions. I had indicated that I'm in the customer support arena as well in the IT department. A lot of times, when I talk to my customers, I take it as training opportunities so that I can reduce the amount of return calls I get. The customer understands more and they will call less, in general.
But I was told that they don't train. They're too busy and they just get their jobs done. I had also asked the repairman about the rest of the air conditioning system. He said, "In my 20 years experience, I can tell you that there's nothing wrong with that stuff." He refused to go inside the house and even do a check on that equipment, much to my disappointment. It was just very matter-of-fact, very standoffish. That's not the kind of customer experience that I was hoping to get. It was a very unfriendly and do-not-approach-me type of atmosphere.
I just recommended to American Home Shield that perhaps, they might want to take a look at another contractor. I understand that to do business, you have to typically get some people that charge less because it's hard to afford. But in this case, I didn't feel like these folks were doing their job. One of the issues we had early on was that the breaker kept tripping and shutting off the air conditioning system. The first time they came out, I wasn't aware how to reset the breaker. They came, reset the breaker, did no further investigation and left. The breaker tripped a couple hours later again. We asked for the company to come back out again, and they did. They don't shut that ticket down for 30 days in case something like that happens.
They got into the outside air conditioning system for a period of time and made some basic checks. I was asking him questions again and was trying not to be too invasive. I was curious and don't know how AC systems work. I was hoping to get some answers on basic functionality in case I could do my own assessment before I had to make that call. He found that nothing was wrong with the AC system and they left. We had to issue another a second recall and ask them to come out again because the breaker would, at that point, not even shut. It kept popping back open. It was at that point that they determined that there was a shorted out compressor inside the system and they had to replace that.
It was during the heat of summer in California, and it was getting upwards of 85 degrees. Because we had no AC, and the outside air was upwards of 100. We couldn't open up the windows and it got warm in the house. They got the replacement part in, in about a week, which was better than their estimates of three weeks. Then the air conditioning system shut off again so we asked for another call. They came back out and said their replacement compressor shorted out. They came back within three weeks with the same part.
I've been with American Home Shield for the last 10 years and overall, it's been a good service for us. The plus is they are responsive and empathetic. We put a call in and the call gets answered within a couple of rings. Generally, within 24 hours, we get a call back. However, it takes a minute to understand what their people are saying. It takes some focus to understand the lady. They read off a script because it seems like I get the same questions or feedback every time, but that's to be expected.
They almost reliably get back to you with the status but the return call is much better than the status update calls. It's about a 50-50 proposition with getting a status update when they say they're gonna let us know. Also, their prices have gone up. That's to be expected but when you're working with deductibles, that's gonna hit the pocketbook. Another thing is the coverage is impossible to read. A lot of people, including ourselves, tend to skip over a lot of the legal to say, "I accept." But we weren't aware that by replacing the compressor, they would have to let all the freon out of the system, and a recharge would cost out of a pocket. Between that 1,300 and the upgrades that were recommended at that time, it was total out-of-pocket of 1,800. It was financially challenging.
The people they contract with, through no fault of their own, are probably trying to cut corners in order to reduce the cost or remove the liability away from themselves. In one case, we had a microwave. A piece of the front door cover had broken off. When we shut the door one time, it flew off and we couldn't glue it back on without it coming back off. We told them that we'd like to get the door replaced. But they said, "No, you guys are shutting the microwave door too hard." But we've had microwaves for years and we've never seen a piece of the material break off like that. Shutting the door on the microwave was not a justifiable reason for why that was done. It was brought up because they didn't wanna replace the door. It might have cost too much or been too much of a nuisance on their time. The microwave door never got replaced.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. AHS apologizes for not meeting your expectations. If your concerns regarding your claim is unresolved, please send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

The dishwasher kept backing up and it'd been backing up for a long time. Back in July, I had called and they replaced something inside the washer where the water shoots out. But it continued to back up. I got really sick so I didn't call again until September. By that time, it started backing up a lot. A repairman came and said it was not cleaning the way the water was sitting there. He replaced the pump but almost right away, it happened again. I called back and he said it might be the motherboard so he changed it. Hopefully, that's what it is. But he is good. He also came because we had an issue with other things. He came to look at the air conditioner also in July. I mentioned I was sick and needed the air conditioner, and they were able to come that day. They were terrific. I like that American Home Shield gets to people fast. It doesn't take long for somebody to come out and see me. I don't have any complaints with them. Two weeks ago, they had McDonald Plumbing come out. My water heater went out and they handled the situation. The service person was cool and professional. It took him a little longer than usual to get to me, but it was excusable because it happened during the hurricane and he was really backed up. There was a lot of work going on.
I recommend American Home Shield even though I closed my contract with them. They weren't offering the stuff that would really benefit me if something happened. For instance, having my well pumps covered would have benefited me. I talked to them to see if they offered it before my contract ended and they didn't offer it. Most recently, a gentleman came in and was able to resolve both issues within two hours. The microwave stopped working and then the stove exhaust was very loud. He didn't have to order parts. So I was very pleased with his service. Sometimes the contractors have to order parts and that would slow down the process.

Our AC wasn't working and J-Tech Mechanical came out to fix it. But they blew up the drain line. It broke the drain line and we started getting water leaking through the ceiling. J-Tech is repairing it today. So I had a claim at Better Business Bureau that was to J-Tech. But Better Business Bureau reassigned it to American Home Shield. So I'm gonna be cancelling that claim because it wasn't American Home Shield's fault. It was J-Tech Mechanical's fault. So, they're taking care of it.
American Home Shield's web portal is really easy to use. So far, all of their techs seemed friendly and relatively knowledgeable. But I would never use J-Tech Mechanical again. If they were to utilize that for future AC issues, I would call American Home Shield and say, "No, I'd like a different AC company." The owner at J-Tech Mechanical was very, very, very inappropriate in the way he spoke to me. So I don't wanna do business with a company like that.

I've had good experience with American Home Shield. I called the about a garbage disposal. There were also three faucets and a toilet that leaked. The gentleman came out. His intent was to do very good. He repaired the garbage disposal very well and one of the tub faucets very well. That left him with my main toilet that leaked around the base of it and one of my vanity faucets. He proceeded to repair. But in the end, one of the vanity faucets was not repaired. It continued to leak. The main toilet, he had to go inside. I heard him say, “I have to go down to Home Depot to get some parts.” I drained the toilet because it leaked water. There was no water in it.
He went to Home Depot. Got the parts. I heard drilling. I asked him what he was doing. He said, ”I gotta cut some bolts to get it loose.” Okay. He did that. So, I sat down here and waited. He was on the phone when he left. He came back and said, “I'm finished.” He gave me a card and left. Very polite, professional, did everything, except the job that he did was not professional.
I went up after he left. I said, “Let me go to toilet. It's working. Let me go see how it's working.” I found that he didn't put water back in the toilet. Had he put water back in it, he would've found that my toilet leaked profusely. I stopped the water and drained back all the water back out of the toilet tank so it could stop leaking. I called AHS back and told them that there was problem. They said they would send somebody back out. Sent the guy back out. He never showed up because he kept getting late. He told me that he was en route. He had an emergency job. However way he went, it did not work out. He did not come back when he said he would.
Called AHS, said, “I need to get somebody out. I need my toilet.” American Home Shield said, “We'll call the plumber back.” I had a little thing with them about, “Why would you have to put me on a waiting list for ticket? By now, I've been out of my toilet about 10 days. So, why won’t you have to get somebody else to come? Why would you put me at the back of your line when this guy came out and dismantle my toilet and said that it wasn't working and all like that?" Finally, they did. American Home Shield gave me an appointment day. The guy came back out. He came out yesterday, fixed the leaking thing. He said, “The guy put it on the wrong side.” Fixed that, went in there and looked at my toilet. He said, “It's gonna be hard to fix this because it's been here for a while. It's gonna take a lot.” There was a lot of calcium buildup. It still won't flush. He said, “I'm gonna go back to AHS and put in a request to proceed.”
Got our email back and called AHS back. Said, “The plumber said due to the customer. It was the customer's fault due to excessive pressure." I don't know how much excessive pressure you could put on a toilet other than sitting on it. Said it was not covered. It would be 300 and something out of my pocket. What they did was wrong. I talked to the girl in AHS. She said, “I'll send another plumber out to counter if you wanna have somebody else do a review and to see what their thing is, without a charge to you.” That's where we are at.
These plumbers that came out here, in order to stay in business with American Home Shield, they rule in favor when it's stupid what he just said. It goes against what he said when he was here. Nobody jumps up and down on a toilet. Nobody went in there and beat on the toilet other than that man. That would have broke the tank because of the drill. Nobody does the things that they said to exempt them from being responsible for replacing the toilet per what they want, he said when you buy into them. They figure out nine ways not to repair it.
Some of the stuff that these plumbers say doesn't make sense. I'm 70 years old. It's just me and my 97-year-old mom. We have no energy to go upstairs in the attic and tear up ductwork. We have no energy to beat our toilet to death. I can't get up and down the stairs. I need the toilet. As a person who's in the house, I know it’s false. I know it's incorrect what they're saying. These plumbers say what they need to say in order to keep AHS from coming out of pocket or either to stay in grace to keep getting job calls from AHS.
I've also had them AHS send a contractor out and do my air conditioner. Similar situation with that. AC wasn't cooling upstairs. The guy came out and did a good job for doing the box outside. He went up in the attic. He said, “Someone went up and tore up your ductwork.” Who in their right mind would go up in the attic and tear ductwork? The ductwork is old and probably disintegrated. And to this day, AHS never sent a contractor back out to do my duct. I also had a refrigerator. The worker came out, said, “You have an internal leak in there. And when it freezes up, it tears your things up. And there's nothing that you can get in there and fix.” To this day, they never got in there and fixed it. AHS kept denying it.
My hot water heater went out. AHS did the repair. They replaced it. I chose to take the cash offer to buy my own. AHS did. They said, “But if someone else installed it, we would not be responsible for anything that goes along with the installation.” The guy that they sent out to do my hot water heater charged me $1,000 to do a $20 repair just to hook it up. So, I opted out of it and signed all the papers on that. To this day, when my hot water heater works good, I pay for the installation on my own. I still have my receipt for my hot water heater. They said they will cover the hot water heater. So, if anything goes wrong with the hot water heater, they will see if it can be repaired or they will replace it. But for the installation, I'm aware that I'm on my own with that because I didn't go their route.
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. AHS apologizes for not meeting your expectations. If your concerns regarding your claim is unresolved, please send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

I called American Home Shield because my faucet on the side of my house was unusable. I could not grip it without cutting my hand. Something was messed up and I wasn't able to use it. I did the $100 service fee, and they assigned SDL to do the job. The tech that came out, and he didn't notify me to let me know that he was out so I could tell him what the issue was with the hydrant on the side of my house. So, he did whatever he did and went back to the office and told them that it's working fine.
When I got home, I was like, “Did the plumber come out?” My daughter was like, “Well, I don't know. Didn’t nobody knock on my door. Didn't nobody knock on the door.” I'm a little embarrassed to admit that the day that he said he came out, my water got turned off by the City of Little Elm. So, my daughter was like, “No. Nobody came. Nobody knocked on the door, so I don't know if he came or not.” I got an email from American Home Shield telling me that the job has been completed. I was like, “How is it completed when, one, nobody called me to let me know that they were out and, for two, my water is turned off?”
So, I called American Home Shield and they were like, “Well, we have a report here from SDL that state that the hydrant is working properly and that it’s cosmetic repairs that need to be done.” I explained to the Home Shield people that it may be cosmetic to them, but if I can't physically turn on my water, then it's more than cosmetic. It's a function issue. They were like, “Well, unfortunately, the way the tech wrote this up, you're gonna have to talk to them because they said that the service is completed and that everything is working properly.” I was like, “And then the other thing, my water’s off. So, how he knows it’s working properly?” She was like, “Unfortunately, I can give you their number, SDL number, because there's nothing we can do.”
So, I called SDL. I spoke with a man and he told me that the tech came out. I was like, “Well, I don't know if the tech came out because nobody contacted me and nobody knocked on the door. Because my daughter was at home and she didn't say anybody came out.” He said, “Well, ma'am, we have pictures. And I have the tech report.” I was like, “Okay. You have pictures. You have the tech report. But nobody, to my knowledge, came out because we were not greeted or anything.” He was like, “Well, I can read off to you what the tech said.” He read off what the tech said.
I said, “Well, the warranty people are saying that I needed to get back in touch with you guys because I need this fixed.” He was like, “Well, my guy came out and he said that it's a cosmetic issue and that I don't know why the warranty people are giving you such a hard time. I don't know why they just don't be honest with you, because they're not gonna pay for the repairs.” I said, “Well, that's the issue I will sort out with the warranty people. My issue with SDL is this. If your tech came out, he lacked communication with me, with my daughter. And he didn't even allow me to tell him exactly what was wrong. I don't know if he came out. And he says that it's a cosmetic issue. But if I can't physically turn on the hydrant to use it, I would think that it’s a functioning problem, not just cosmetic.”
He was like, “Well, you don't have to get aggressive and you don't have to get hostile with me.” I said, “I'm not. I'm just telling you the fact that he did not communicate is a big issue to me because I could have told him what my issue was.” If he felt the need that the home warranty people wouldn't cover it, I would have paid out of pocket because I need to use this faucet because of me not watering my yard. I'm getting foundation issues. So, the lack of communication is not the warranty's issue. It's SDL's issue. He was like, “Well, whatever. Just call your warranty people back and tell them you want a second opinion. And they'll have somebody to come out and do a second opinion. But I'm gonna tell you now, they're gonna say the same thing that we said.” I said, “Well, hopefully they'll communicate that with me and not just leave me in the blind.”
I called American Home Shield and they told me that because of the way that SDL wrote the report, they wouldn't do a second opinion. And if we were to do a second opinion, then there would be an out-of-pocket charge of $100 again for the service fee. I just got one of my neighbors who have a plumbing business. He came out and he repaired it. He charged me 280. I paid him to get it fixed. But as far as the home warranty, Shield didn't do anything. SDL didn't do anything either. So, I just paid out of pocket.
I called customer service three times and told the customer service person I spoke with, “I need to speak to a supervisor because I need to speak to someone that can make some decisions.” They gave me a very hard time with speaking to a supervisor. Finally, I had to get irate and belligerent, and I got to speak to a supervisor. Once I spoke with the supervisor, she acted as if she understood. She said, “If we do a second opinion and they come out and pretty much say the same thing that SDL said, you will have to pay out of pocket.” So, I had her set it up. However, I canceled it because I was like, “Why continue to go through this when I could just pay somebody out of pocket?” So, that was what I did. I'm very dissatisfied. It was a horrible experience. I'm looking for a new home warranty people.

All Comfort finally ended up taking care of the problem. It took a couple of trips and orders. American Home Shield ordered a part that didn't work. It was supposed to have been new out of the box, but it didn't work. All Comfort had to send it back to them. American Home Shield had to reorder to get the problem fixed with that particular unit. The downstairs unit had been fixed.
American Home Shield took a long time. My claim started in June and finally, the upstairs and downstairs were working in September. So, that was how long it took back and forth with American Home Shield. All Comfort ended up being my second-opinion company. I did not agree with the first-opinion company's assessment. American Home Shield was wanting to charge me a whole bunch of money. Then I got the second opinion. All Comfort came with a more reasonable assessment. As the end result, I finally got my air conditioning on, but summer was over. At some point, neither unit was working when we had the triple digits here. So, I suffered through the summer without complete air. All Comfort did a good job. I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield.
I've been paying AHS money for years but when it comes to a claim, they find every excuse and every reason not to pay. The only reason that the new unit was put in is because All Comfort insisted on it saying, “It's obvious this is wear and tear. And this lady needs a new unit.” Instead of piecemealing this old unit, which they were trying to do. So, I give All Comfort a good rating for their service and their support.

On my most recent claim to American Home Shield, I had a company come out. They looked at three of my appliances that weren't working, and they said that there was some kind of surge that caused them not to be working. So, my appliances weren't covered for that reason. Then I couldn't get any paperwork saying that. It's been three weeks, and I never received any paperwork from the appliance company. American Home Shield said the appliance people were supposed to send that paperwork out, and they never did. They never returned my calls, and I've been calling every day. Finally, I looked up their address. I told them if they didn't return my call, I would drive to their location. They returned the call right away, and that was after three weeks.
American Home Shield kept telling me that they would email me the paperwork. They kept telling me every day that I would get it in 24 hours. I never received any emails pertaining to the reason. And then I received in the mail two items for the reason why they weren't paying, but I haven't received the third item. It's very frustrating that they tell me every day that I'm gonna receive it by email and I never have for three weeks. Every time they send someone out, it's $100 and then I can't even get paperwork for $100, and they sent multiple people out.

It's been fantastic with American Home Shield. We've had them for seven years and this is our second home using them. I do my claims online because it's usually quicker and easier than calling and getting someone on the line. But I have called to get someone redo one of our service requests because it wasn't fixed the first time. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. But that time I called, it was a pretty easy process. The contractors have been great. I've had one incident with them but part of that was our fault for not realizing it wasn't covered under our coverage. Everything else has been good and I'd still recommend American Home Shield to friends and family.

This was in 2010 and we never went with anyone else, so we didn't have a warranty until we decided to go back with them last year. The claim process is great. There are a few questions asked and that's it. There's no hassle, and the technicians they send definitely know what they're doing. I've had no problem with them. They're very friendly and each time, they came out and explained to me what they were doing and I left them alone. When my furnace went out, American Home Shield had it fixed four times, but it went out again and they said, "We're just gonna just replace the whole thing." That experience was great.

If you don't have American Home Shield, you need it. I like the convenience and everyone has always been professional with everything we did. I had an issue with my stovetop. I went on my computer and put in a work order. It was easy. I got a call from the individual with his name and the company and what time he would come out. He first came out, opened up the stove, and tested everything, saw that the burner and light were out. He diagnosed that it was the switch and a burner replaced that was needed and a new light that was needed for the stovetop.
He didn't have the parts because he didn't know what was wrong. So, he came out with just testing equipment to check and see if it was something as simple as a switch or if it was a bigger problem. Once he diagnosed the problem, right there in my kitchen, he researched what parts and pieces were needed, and saw that most of them were available, but one needed to come in. He told me when the parts would be in and we scheduled a follow-up appointment for him to come out and replace all the parts right then and there. It was professional and exceptional. Everything works great.

He said that the plug behind the oven had something wrong there but he also said he couldn't remove the oven. It's built-in. He said he needed to go back to the office, talk to American Home Shield and see if they'd pay him to do that. That was a month ago and I haven't heard a word. The oven is still not working. I've talked to American Home Shield twice but got nothing. Half the time, the people don't even know. The last time I talked to a rep, he said he'd look if he could find somebody to talk to me. I was on hold for 10 minutes but got hung up on.
The first guy that came out didn't speak English. He was here five times just coming and going. I told American Home Shield I don't want him back. He can't understand me and I can't understand him. All he did was replace my kitchen faucet. I called because all the faucets in the house were leaking, and all of them still leak. American Home Shield said they could send another vendor out, but it'd cost another $100. I also called a guy for my heater that was running a lot. He came out and looked at it. He said the vents needed to be cleaned which is maintenance and something he could do for $200.

I had multiple accounts before I sold my other house and whenever I filed a claim, I would have to call in and make sure that the work order was created properly. But I now I just do it online. But it's a hit or miss with American Home Shield. The last two claims wasn't as successful as I would have hoped. A plumber came in for a pipe that was leaking. When he came out, he took a picture and that was it. He never said anything else to us. He just left. When I asked American Home Shield what the outcome was, they said they weren't repairing it because it was from an ice storm which was not true. We never even talked to the man. American Home Shield had to send another company out here, and that company handled it properly.
The claim for the stove took a very long time. It was almost a month later before I got it fully completed. I put in the request but no one called me. It took weeks before I called them to ask if someone could come out, and they eventually did. I shouldn't have to ask them for the service instead of them calling and reaching out to me. Also, instead of them taking their trash and my old stovetop, they just left them in my kitchen. But I'm glad that American Home Shield replaced my stovetop. In the home that I live in, American Home Shield has taken care of everything that I've asked for. But with my other home, they didn't repair the AC. I had to go in and hire a company to do that. I also have so much other stuff like septic tank and pool, but they don't cover those things.

The refrigerator door kept freezing over and would have ice on the outside of it. I called in the claim like I always do and it was very easy to submit it. Gleaning Hands Appliance Repair, who I had used previously, came out. They initially reached out to me to set up an appointment and they were very prompt. Also, I feel like they're very ethical like I wouldn't be afraid to leave them in my house. Two different techs came out and they were both very professional. The thing I liked about it was they cleaned up their mess when they left. They wound up having to replace the door on the refrigerator. But there's the problem that every time I have a claim, the premium goes up. I may drop it because the price is pretty much what an appliance costs. If I'm gonna pay that a year, I can just save that in my own pocket. If they hadn't gone up on the premium so much, I would be more inclined to keep it.

Whenever I call American Home Shield, people that have very thick accents are hard to understand. But whenever AHS called me, it was great because there were no accents. The first time the contractor came out, they looked at the refrigerator and ordered a part, and repaired the fridge. My husband laughed. He said, "Really? It was that easy? Had I known that, I could have done this like weeks ago." The second time the contractor came out, they looked at my dishwasher and found that it was not repairable so it was replaced. The guys who did that came and delivered it today. But the Sears people wouldn't do installation so I had to find someone else to install it for me. I thought they would unbox it from what Whirlpool had told me and make sure there was no damage to it, but they did not do that. They just dropped it off, had me sign a paper, and left. It was a very quick in-and-out process.
My biggest frustration was the fact that someone called me and told me they could give me "$125" cash-in-lieu settlement for the repairs, or I could send in an estimate and they would send me the money for the estimate of the repair. Whenever I did that and called AHS back and told them, "I've got the estimate here. Can I send it to you?", they told me, "No, it can't be an estimate. You have to pay for it first and then we'll send you the money to cover it." They said they wouldn't promise to pay the full amount. It depended on whether they could get it approved. I got a lot of turnaround stories and nobody could give me a straight one. Everybody said everybody else lied. I took the 125 in-lieu and called it good because I didn't wanna fight anymore. Other than that, it has been fine.

You can't go wrong with American Home Shield. When you call them, they are willing to listen. They will look up your contract, and tell you what they will do. If you have an issue and they don't take care of it, you have a complaint. The hot water heater leaked. I got out my papers and started reading, and it said that the hot water heater was covered. I figured, “I'll save a buck or two by going with Home Shield.” When I turned in the complaint, four hours later, I got a telephone call. The gentleman introduced himself and said, “I'll be there tomorrow at around 7:30, eight o'clock,” and he was. He started working and everything fell into place smoothly.
The tech was very cordial. He came in, introduced himself, and told me who he was. In turn, he said, “Is this the hot water heater?” I said, “Yes.” He looked down and said, “You do have some water down here. I'll see what I can do about finding it. When I find what the problem is, I'll let you know.” He started working, and 45 minutes later or less, he told me that it was the upper element that had a bad seal. He took that out. He drained the water heater, and took the element out. Said, “Here's your problem.” He put a new one in, turned the water back on, and we were back working.

It’s attached to my permanent residence. It met all the requirements. So I was not really pleased with finding that out after being one of their loyal customers. I feel like I need to terminate that contract. Prior to this experience, American Home Shield has been pretty decent.
I received my renewal contract with American Home Shield and there was approximately a $50 increase in my monthly premium for coverage for a year. That is on top of what I received last year, which was an increase in the dispatch fee for a technician on a service request. American Home Shield was paid to work on plumbing for us. The contractor was sent out because we had a water leak underneath the house. They were paid the $85 fee to come out. The man turned off a valve and told my husband that the only way to repair the leak would be to move the water heater and AHS didn't pay for access to do that. But they had discussed the age of our water heater. Even though that wasn't the problem that if we wanted to replace the water heater, they could do that for us.
My husband agreed and said, "It's probably a good idea based on the age." They said, "You have to pay half up front and we can get the water heater for you and replace it when we come out to finish the repair." My husband asked, "Can you go ahead? And since we're going to do the replacement anyway, can you move the water heater now? So, it can be repaired before the water heater comes in next week." He said, "No. I've got a bad back. I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd have to get someone else out here anyway." My husband said, "I can still hear water rushing." He said, "No. That's just residual. It'll stop." An hour later, when it was still going, my husband had to crawl under the house himself. He saw water spewing out from the pipe. He had to shut off the water at the road to the whole house. Not only did we not have hot water, we didn't have any water.
We called AHS. AHS was unwilling to help with any of it. They just said, "You'll have to pay $85 for us to send someone else out." My husband said, "Why? We already paid $85. Nothing was done." They said, "That's just the way it is. We didn't even get paperwork from Discount. We don't even know what the problem is." My husband said, "That's the problem right there. They still haven't sent in paperwork. And it's been days." They wouldn't listen. We said we wanted to use this other company to do the repairs because they came out and did the emergency stop of the water. AHS said, "No. You have to use one of our plumbers." My husband said, "Are these guys one of yours?" They said, "Unfortunately not. Is there anything else we can help you with?" My husband said, "Are you kidding?" That was the end of that.
We called Discount Plumbing back. We ended up calling our own homeowners. We had to pay for the plumbing repairs out of pocket. We got the money back for the heater from the Discount Plumbing after we paid out of pocket for an emergency repair. They said, "You don't even have to move the water heater to get to this. There is no access needed." They repaired the pipe.

My most recent claim was also my first claim with American Home Shield. The service people gave me a time window of when they would show up. I had something that I had to do, so I had to leave. I was on my way back. I was 10 minutes away from my home. They called, they said that they were there. I told them I was on my way back. The tech said, "I'm gonna wait for 10 minutes. If you're not here in 10 minutes, then I'm gonna leave." I said, "Okay, I'm on my way now." I got to my home. He didn't start any services. He didn't look at the air conditioning unit. He just stood there on my front porch and then got in his vehicle. When I got there, he started to pull off.
When I pulled up, he said, "Hey, bud. Is this you?" I said, "Yes, it is." He said, "You said 10 minutes. It's 11 minutes. I told you I was going to leave after 10 minutes." I said, "Well, I got stuck behind a slow driver. I'm here now." He gave me an attitude. At that point, my patience had started to subside. I was like, "Well, you're here to do a service for me. I don't understand why you're talking to me as if I'm working for you. Or I don't know what you think this is, but it ain't that." He slammed his phone down on his dashboard and got out of his truck and came towards me as if he was going to try to fight me. When he saw that I wasn't backing down, he got back in his truck and continued to try to yell at me. He left.
I immediately called his company. I never received a call back from his manager. I told them the situation and what happened. They assured me that they were working on the claim right then and there so that I could talk to American Home Shield and tell them like, "Hey, this company, they didn't work on my ticket. I need a different company to come out." But they took forever. While I was in talks with them, I also got in contact with American Home Shield. I told them what happened through the text chat and their response was, "We can't assume that that's what happened." I was like, "Well, I have video proof. I have proof that this is what happened." I don't think that this company should be sent out to anybody else.
I've seen a lot of similar situations. I looked up their Google reviews, and they have a very low rating. That made me look at American Home Shield a bit differently because why are they sending companies who do not have a good track record, companies who have low ratings to people's home to do work? It was traumatic as far as a technician threatening me. He knows where I live. American Home Shield saying, "Well, we can't assume that's what happened. So we're not gonna do anything about it" was very wrong to me. Nothing was done at all. I travel for work. So after that situation, which was so pressing because I wasn't gonna be home for a month, it made me look at American Home Shield very differently. Also me not being home, I requested to cancel the ticket and to get a refund.

This coming February 25, it'll be five years since we bought American Home Shield. We had it for a year as part of the purchase, and we kept it because it seemed a small investment, considering the protection we are getting. It offers me the protection that I expected it to and I'd recommend people to do it and keep it. I like that we call and there's somebody there that day or the next day. I was concerned that there would be a huge delay, but it hasn't been. It's been pretty quick.
The only thing that I would change is that I pay monthly, but yet I still have to pay for the service call when the contractors come. But it isn't a big deal, especially since we had one claim with our furnace. The parts would have cost us an arm and a leg, so I'm glad I only had to cover the service call. It would be nice if that was covered too and if we could agree to a five-year term and get a lower rate, but I'm still satisfied. Recently, my kitchen sink backed up and I was having issues with a few other drains. A plumber came and augered the drains, and everything's draining well now.
Thanks Joshua. We’re thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

I had a garage door opener put in my house and am having some issues with it. I specifically put in a claim saying that my garage door would not open. American Home Shield sent 495 Garage Door and when they came out, there were some other things that were needed for my garage. I needed a weather strip at the bottom of my door. The repairman also said that the wheels were bad. That ticket was $595. Then he said I needed a new garage door opener too. He gave me a price of $1,200 for a garage door opener. I told him I couldn't afford a $1,200 garage door opener so he went down to $950, which was still high.
I paid the money but my garage door is still not working. He put it in on October the 11th and when I came back home that night, my garage door was not closing. I can't close my garage door unless I do it manually. I need to stand there and hold the button. I called the company back but they said they couldn't come out until Sunday. He came out Sunday and made an adjustment. I left him behind to go to the store and when I came back, it was the same thing. The garage door was not opening. I called him to tell him to come back. He said, “I need to order some part on the door. I'll give you a call tomorrow and let you know when I’d be in.” But he never called or did anything.
I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. I said, “Their company told me that you didn't cover the garage door opener.” They said, “Yes because he put on the ticket that you wanted to upgrade.” I said, “That's not what I told you. I told you I was having problems opening and closing my garage door. You guys are here for me, not for them.”
American Home Shield was telling me if they send somebody else out to service the garage door, I would have to pay another $125 for a service fee. That's not right. They should eat that 125 and send a new company out. The rep said, “If they come out and find out that the same thing is wrong, then you're gonna pay for it.” I told them I'm not paying for anything, that they should have stood behind me when I called and told them what was going on. I got ripped off a total of $1,700 with their fee of $125 but my garage is still not opening. It's getting cold outside and I won't be able to pull up in my garage and into my house. American Home Shield should reimburse me my money because I specifically told them that I was having problems opening and closing my garage but they believed the technician when he put in that claim stating that I wanted an upgrade.
I had also put in a claim for a stove and ended up buying another stove because I didn't feel like going back and forth with them. After I get this issue with my garage door opener resolved, I'm gonna cancel American Home Shield ‘cause it's no use to me. Every time I try to use them, they don't cover it. American Home Shield is not for the customers. They're just out for the money. Also, nobody speaks English. American Home Shield has foreigners who you’re talking to on the phone. They're frustrated ‘cause they're not understanding and you're frustrated ‘cause they're not understanding what you're saying. This customer service is horrible.

The customer service with American Home Shield is pretty easygoing. When my water tank exploded on a Sunday morning, they got my information and put a ticket in. Being on a weekend, they said that Monday morning, more likely, somebody would be reaching out to me to set up an appointment. When the technician came, he told me what was gonna happen. He gave me the good news and the bad news. He said, "One, I cannot repair your water heater. Two, I have to send documentation to your warranty provider. Three, until they review and accept it, then they'll get to the third party. And four, until I get the water heater, I couldn't come back out here and fix it." I went three days without water but gladly, the water temperatures weren't as cold.
I recommend American Home Shield and I have recommended them before. In the last seven years, the pricing is fair. But they don't let you know when they go up in price for the appointment fee. When I called them for my AC unit, it was $75. This go around on my water tank, it was $100.

The plumber went above and beyond. He not only fixed the problem I was having with my toilet but also answered a question for me about the noises I was hearing in my water line. I had bought a replacement part that didn't work, but he was able to adapt part of it to still be used, so I appreciate that. He kept me informed every step of the way. He was also very careful to put covers on shoes.
We got American Home Shield when we purchased this older duplex 4.5 years ago. It's good to keep the warranty in place especially with an aging house. I renew it every year because of the ease of the app whenever we have a problem. I can easily get someone to come out quickly for whatever I need, whether it's electricity or plumbing. I like the vendors that have always been sent out and the quickness that I'm responded to. I had other warranty services, and American Home Shield is the one that's been the most responsive. But the price concerns me because it goes up a little bit every year.

I've been American Home Shield's customer for almost 20 years, and the two service claims I put in this year were both rejected, and both of them were beyond absurd. This most recent one, I'm still in process with them. I'm appealing it. Communication is horrible. The people on the other line don't speak English, which is my number one thing. I had to have them repeat it six times to even understand what they're saying, and that was on four different calls. So it wasn't just the one call and I couldn't understand someone. I had four different calls and could not understand them.
The latest claim that I had was for my pool. It's 18 years old and I have a hairline crack in the base of the filter, so I put a claim in for it. The first company that came out said it's not normal wear and tear. I thought we have American Home Shield for things that break, but he said it was not normal wear and tear and therefore would not be covered. My comment back was, “It's 18 years old. It's a crack.” He said it's because there was a filter piece missing. The filter piece doesn't control the flow.
I asked for a second opinion. It said TBD on all the prices. So it didn't even give me a quote. This morning, I spoke to them. I said I still haven't got a quote from the first company, let alone to compare the second company. The second company came out, and the super nice guy looked at it. He said, “Oh, yeah. It's a crack. Yeah. You're missing the filter piece. But that wouldn't have anything to do with the pressure, forcing a high pressure to crack your thing.” My son who's 44 said, “Oh, that's good because the other guy said it was because of pressure because of the piece.” He said, “Oh, no. It doesn't have anything to do with the piece. Oh, by the way, what do you mean the other guy?” My son was like, “Oh, they didn't tell you it was a second opinion?”
So then he said, “Well, that changes everything because we can't override a second opinion. We can only verify that we see the same thing. if our diagnosis is different, we're not allowed to override what the first company says.” I told him we should record the conversation. What's the point of a second opinion if they're gonna just agree with what the finding is, but not agree with the diagnosis? That seems to be an oxymoron.
I called American Home Shield and I complained. I said I want to appeal it. I have a pool man too, by the way, that has been cleaning my pool professionally for a number of years. I called and I told him I'm gonna get an outside party, which is Leslie Pool Supply, which is a nationwide company. I paid $100 for them to come out. They did a complete check and said the same exact thing, that it's wear and tear, it’s the hairline thing, and that the filter piece that's missing is to clear dirt, debris, and has nothing to do with the pressure that would cause it.
I submitted that to American Home Shield. I called and told them I want to appeal the decision. Some lady from there sent me an email and asked me for pictures. I supplied those yesterday. Overall, I only would have one claim a year, and I pay 80 something a month. So the one claim I've had a year, if my refrigerator, my ice maker broke, or my water heater broke twice back to back, which is not my fault, but it was during COVID. And they said it was probably due with shipping. Except for taking a couple extra days to come out, they've always had good people came out. There was good communication. I've never really had to talk to people on the phone. It's always just been via email.
This year has been really bad because my earlier this year claim was for a canister light that went out. We tried everything, and then a friend of mine's husband said it's gotta be in the electrical thing, that we probably have to change the motor thing, or whatever it is behind it. So I did that claim because I thought, “Okay, that's gonna be more than $100.” They denied it, and they said it's considered a fixture.
I was like. “A fixture is a lamp or a light that I install. This was built by KB Home as part of the structure of the home. I didn't put that up there.” They denied it because they said it's considered a fixture. They did refund my $100, which is fine because then I paid the guy the $100 to come and replace it for me. But it's the drama and going through that for three weeks. Also, having to speak to people, I could not understand them. I could tell they’re reading from a script, too.
Hi Linda, Wow! Thank you so much for the feedback. We appreciate your business. Sincerely, Mariah

I woke up in the middle of the night, and my carpet in my bedroom was damp. I went in the kitchen and there was a cascade of water coming out from under my kitchen sink. I live in a gated community, and I called them. They sent the roving patrol to disconnect the water from the house so that it stopped coming in. Then I called American Home Shield at 6:00 in the morning. I told them that it was an emergency, that I'm 94 years old and I needed my water turned on. Summit Plumbing came at 8:30 in the morning. The repairman found the hole that was in the lead to my cold water faucet in the kitchen which he replaced. He had another faucet on the truck. He was absolutely fantastic and also recommended a mitigation company that came that same day.
I have had American Home Shield for 30 years since I moved into this house. If anything is wrong, I call them. I have found them to be fantastic. I've only had one plumber whom I didn't like. All the other people they've sent have been not just adequate but also wonderful. But they've gone up in price. It was $35 when they came to the house. Now, it's $100. But everything else has gone up and I would still recommend American Home Shield to anybody. They're extraordinary. They took care of this old lady so that by 9:15 in the morning, my water was on.

American Home Shield keeps sending repairmen over to my house but they don't get the job done. Then they charge me every a month and send limited repairmen that don't know what they're doing. I have an issue right now that is unresolved and they charged me for it. My dryer went out and they had a dude came over. I had to wait two more weeks for the part to come in. Then when the part came in, the dryer didn't work. The tech said the motor went out. So I had to wait another week for the motor to come and it still doesn't work. They keep calling me asking me for a payment, and I'm reluctant to pay them because they're not following up to my expectations. My dryer is out right now. It sucks.

The gentleman from Watertight Pool and Spas came out promptly on Monday. We called them toward the end of the weekend but they weren't available to come out Saturday and Sunday. He first tested several things to make sure what was wrong with the pool pump, realized that it was not a good pump anymore, and replaced it. Everything was working fine after that and I was pleased with their service.
American Home Shield is a great company especially with times like when you don't have money to pay for these things. It comes in handy and the price is very reasonable. You don't have to pay thousands of dollars for things that may cost you. You just pay $100 upfront and they cover the rest. Their internet website is very easy to use as well. You can understand where to click and how to enter your complaint.

When the contractor came out for a faucet leak, it turned out that two faucets leaked and they were gonna replace the toilet, but we told them they didn't need to. They were gonna put a white toilet in but our toilet is green. A couple of days later, the leak was in the water purifier, and it was still leaking. The guy came out and also noted another place that was leaking and replaced a valve. Home Shield is the hardest damn thing to get ahold of and deal with. Their automated system is almost enough to make me wanna go to somebody else. They sometimes send out good people and sometimes not so good people. I'm supposed to get a refund for the air conditioner because the contractor didn't come out, so I could get another guy to come out. But the appliance guy they sent out was excellent.

I sent in a claim for the ductwork and the contractor that American Home Shield used to look at stuff gave a bad diagnosis. So I called American Home Shield and asked to get a second opinion. I was told that part of policy is that if a contractor comes out and makes a diagnosis that I don't think is right, they'll send out a second contractor. Then if they give the same diagnosis, I have to pay that fee again. I was okay with that. But they never sent anybody else. So, I wound up getting my own second opinion.
When that guy came out, he looked under my house for 45 minutes trying to diagnose the problem, figured out what the real problem was, and sent me pictures and the whole report. But American Home Shield wasn't interested in me sending out what he found. They weren't interested in sending out a second opinion. I even told them, "Hey, this guy is a licensed contractor who came out, spent his time, 45 minutes, looking to see what the problem was. The people you used came out, spent five minutes looking for a problem, made some stuff up, and got out of there." When I told them that the company that they sent out before was not a trustworthy company and then I asked to get a second opinion, they said, "No, we're going with whatever they sent in. We're not interested and we're not sending you a second opinion. We're closing the case." They just refused to give any help at all.
I have another claim with plumbing that I've been waiting for over three months to have fixed and I still have not. They haven't sent out a single technician and kept telling me they couldn't find anybody. They are authorizing outside authorization, but with the way they just did it on the ductwork, I'm afraid to do outside authorization, pay for it myself, and not get reimbursed through them. They always use this Fast Response company for HVAC, and it's always like they don't fix anything. They come out, look at stuff, and might say they found a problem or not. Then they'll leave, say they're ordering a part, and I never hear from them again. I always have to reach out or do extra work to get stuff done. American Home Shield said that's the only company they have in my area, which sounds fishy to me. It almost feels like American Home Shield doesn't care about customer service, they just want your money.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

My dishwasher had a few problems. It wasn't washing properly like when we first moved in, and it was leaking water. The lady that came out ordered three parts, and she said that it should fix the issue. My wife asked her, “All right. Well, how about the water leaking? Is that gonna fix that?” She said, “Yeah.” One of the parts was on backorder so we had to wait for about two months. We scheduled another appointment with GE and the lady came back. She was rude to my wife the first time that she was there and then the second time, she asked my wife, “What was the problem again? I don't know why I ordered these parts.” So my wife told her that it was leaking water, the door didn't open, and the dishes didn't get clean. She said, “Okay.” Then she put the parts on and she said, “All right, everything should be fine. That should stop the water leak.”
The parts that she ordered didn't make any sense to me to have to stop a water leak. But she said, “Yeah, everything should be fine.” As soon as she left, my wife tried to run it and the water leaked out of the front again. So I tried to call the technician's phone, and she didn't answer. I called GE back and they said, “Oh, well. Yeah. There's nothing we can do. We gotta wait for the technician to put the order through. And it's the end of the day so I can't send anybody back out.” So I made another appointment and then she came back out. She said she tightened this little thing and that should stop the water leak. My wife told her, “We asked you the first time. Why didn't you look at that then?” She said, “Oh, I guess I didn't realize.”
My wife asked American Home Shield and GE, “Please don't send her again.” But they sent the same person three times in a row. So I'm very unhappy with GE and American Home Shield. I'm probably gonna cancel American Home Shield. What I liked most about the service is that it gives you peace of mind. But now from this experience, I don't have as much peace of mind as I did. Also, if there are complaints, they should do a little bit of a better job in reimbursing the $125 service fee that you have to pay. They gave me $50 back, but it was not good enough. I had to call and complain to American Home Shield and get escalated to two different people before they finally even budged on getting any money back. It took about a week.

The tech from NextGen Appliance Services was awesome. The claim was for my refrigerator where the compressor apparently blew out. The only bad part was we were out a refrigerator for three weeks. He called me within 48 hours just to do a follow-up to make sure everything was working.
I like the fact that generally, AHS gets everything taken care of. Sometimes it's like pulling teeth, though. My very first claim I tried to file years ago, they told me it wasn't covered. Then I come to find out it was. It was a person on the phone who didn't understand. That cost me $500 out-of-pocket and I'm still kind of upset about that, but it is what it is.

They sent a technician out for the washing machine. There was an error code and it would shut off. It would start and it would spin as if it was going to begin but then it would shut off. He wasn't sure what the problem was. He replaced a part because he said, “Let's just try this and see if this is it.” But the washing machine continued to have the same problem so I contacted American Home Shield and requested a return call. The same company came back. He was very nice but he couldn't figure it out. He said it must be intermittent because he couldn't find anything.
After the visit by the guy, I got a letter from American Home Shield saying that my service was denied. I asked what that meant and they said the contractor didn't find a problem and I was not gonna be charged. They said not to worry and that it just meant there was no problem on that service call. I thought that was really weird. But the washing machine was still doing it so I took videos and pictures of it when it was happening and showed the error code. I contacted American Home Shield that I needed somebody to come back and they sent a different provider. Right away, the tech recognized the issue and he ordered a part. It has arrived and he's supposed to come back next week and install it. But I was frustrated that I can't choose the provider. AHS just sends somebody.

I had a plumber here and he said the issue was that there was a foreign object in the garbage disposal. He said to put hot water down and an ice and eventually the clanking would go away. I did that for a couple of days and it didn't go away. I called AHS and told them not to send that plumber back here and to send somebody else come. They sent another plumber and he said something was messed up in it. They came back today and fixed it. Other than that, I've been well-pleased with AHS with fixing stuff. Douglas Mechanical came out to assess why my AC wasn't working, and they determined it was a coil that I had paid $6,000 personally last year to replace. American Home Shield didn't pay a dime and I'm not very happy with them. But because it has a 10-year warranty, once the repairman told me that that was the part, I called ARS back. They came out and replaced the old one with a new one without a charge to me. If I didn't have the warranty on the part that was broken, typically, the contractor has to turn it in to American Home Shield. They have to wait to hear back and it can take up to 14 days. When I finally heard back and got a quote from Douglas Mechanical, for me to get it repaired was gonna be $1,200 because of things American Home Shield doesn't pay.
I live in South Texas and last summer, we had crazy record-breaking temperatures. It was anywhere from 108 to 115 every single day. My AC stopped working the Friday night before July 4th holiday weekend and nobody was gonna get to me for five days. You can't be in a house with no air conditioning with 108 to 115 temperature for a week. I called American Home Shield that Friday night at five o'clock. July 4th last year was on a Tuesday, which meant nobody was gonna call me back at the earliest till Wednesday or Thursday because it was also summer which is a peak season for AC issues. I had to call ARS because they're the only company that will come out within eight hours or less and handle whatever it is. They came out within three hours and replaced the new coil the next morning.
I'm gonna be canceling American Home Shield because the rate went up. I'm paying $80 a month, and so far there's been no benefit to me. It took me a year to pay off the $6,000 for the coil that I paid for. Everybody's not sure why I'm paying $80 a month plus interest to have a home warranty policy that so far has not helped me. If the problem is an AC, they have to have somebody that can get out quickly. We were just close to 100 last week here in Houston. A week to 14 days is not something that's workable where I live.

Our kitchen sink was clogged up and it wasn't draining. I went to American Home Shield online and got a work order for them to come out. That process was a piece of cake. K & S Plumbing Services was assigned and we were scheduled for Friday but the tech's call before me was ran over and they wanted to reschedule for Monday. I told them that that wasn't possible because it was my kitchen sink and I couldn't use it because it was stopped up. They sent out a work order for the weekend, which apparently is normally more money. They ran a snake about 30 feet and supposedly unclogged the sink, but within a week, it was back to doing the same thing. They had to return for a second call and a different guy came out. He was very knowledgeable and personable and he took care of the problem.
I have been with American Home Shield for 20 years and it's been really beneficial to us in the long run because, over the years, we've had big things that have had to be fixed that would have cost us a lot of money out of pocket. The things that I would say could be better is we have noticed that a lot of the times the contractors that come out are not very good.
This was many years ago and it was the first time I'd ever had a female air conditioning person come out. She seemed real capable and she did her job and everything was good, but came to find out she put in the evaporator in the air conditioner backwards. It was like that for a while and I had my nephew come out to install some speaker wires. He went up in the attic and it was leaking up there.

The air conditioning was running, but there was no cold air coming out. When the fellow came out, he worked with my son and found a corroded wire. He corrected that and the air conditioning started throwing out cold air. Everybody was very happy and satisfied. We're also looking to see if American Home Shield has any contacts with replacing the air conditioners.
When our air conditioning first went out, we had water dripping from the ceiling. American Home Shield was supposed to get somebody out here, and we ended up with somebody that said they could come out in a week. In a week, the whole ceiling could fall in. We called up another person to come out and do it. When American Home Shield sent somebody back for another reason, they were saying the way that the air conditioning unit was fixed voided the warranty so they were not gonna do anything with it. I felt in that case, American Home Shield didn't do enough to cover us. My daughter researched all the different home warranties and she came up with the best coverage through American Home Shield. We've had them since 2022 and I thought that they would take much better care of their customers when something like that happens.

It was easy to file claims with AHS and the customer service seemed great. Harvey Contractors came out for our garage. The door wouldn't go down and the sensors were not properly aligned. They wanted to come out right away, but I couldn't because I had to work. I asked them to come out two or three days after I put the initial claim in and they fixed the issues.

Fast Tech Plumbing was great. They told me the plumber would be out the next day, and he was. He diagnosed the issue on the toilet that was running and knew what it was right away. He took care of it and called me back and let me know everything was completed. The waiting time is long when I call to file a claim, but once you get there, they take care of everything right then. Some time in the past, I had scheduled through the automated system. But I'm old school and I like to talk to somebody. That way, it verifies for me. I also noticed when I do the app and schedule online, my turnaround is not that great. But when I talk to someone, they let me know the contractor assigned and that they'll call me or I can call them.
American Home Shield is a good to have protection coverage for your appliances, plumbing or electrical. I've had them for over 10 years and they help out on any unforeseen cost if something goes wrong. I'm happy with them, though I’ve had issues with them where they told me to pay for something and they would reimburse me, but they didn't do it. They gave me the runaround.
Thanks Eric. We’re thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

It's a slower process to get things fixed. American Home Shield would contact the plumber, but the plumber usually wouldn't come out the same day. The toilets have a part that is different from any other toilet made. I didn't know at the time. The plumber attempted to order the part, and it took a month before they determined and requested that the toilet be replaced instead. They let me know that the replacement would be the builder's grade toilet. I bought the toilet, and they replaced it. Because if they bought the toilet or I just wanted to pay the difference, AHS probably would not pay for the installation.
AHS uses an offshore company for following up customer service. They called me at 5:30 in the morning to find out how things were going. The person didn't seem to understand when I said it was 5:30 in the morning. She just said, "Is now a good time to talk?" I said, "They're not gonna be there either because it's 5:30 in the morning." Most of the time, if someone made that mistake, she would apologize.

I've had American Home Shield for at least four years. I had them at my other property before I sold it. I've had them two more years at this property. I'm getting ready to get rid of them. I'm not gonna use them again after this experience. The contractor came in. The tech did an estimate. The contractor sent the estimate over but nothing got handled. I am without any heat or AC for over a month. I had to go out and get a heater to heat up my bedroom so I could be at least warm enough in there until we could get my appliance fixed.
I had to request another company. I called AHS the first day. They contacted Bennett Air. I got nothing. I called them the next day. They again contacted Bennett Air. I got nothing. But on the third day, Bennett Air sent a text message letting me know that the part was on back order. In the same portion, the tech said she didn't know if AHS ordered the part and would have to be in the purchasing department. I said that was a contradiction of what she said. Either it was on back order or was not. I didn't even respond to the lady at that point. They sent it in a text message and didn't bother to call me. I have not spoken to anyone from that company since September, right after Labor Day. It was rude and disrespectful for that response to come via text message, like I didn't deserve a phone call.

Two weeks ago, I put a claim in for a washer that was unbalanced on load and American Home Shield sent an electrician out. I talked to him today asking when he's gonna come out and fix it. He said he’s waiting on American Home Shield to order a part. I'm waiting on them to call him because nobody ever texts me to let me know how much it would cost, if I have to take it out of pocket, or when this part's gonna come in so I can tell my tenant. But the claims process is usually on point and doesn't take that long. When I put an order in, they send someone out that. The contractors are also very transparent and they communicate with me. My hot water heater leaked. I tried to submit may claim online but that didn't work. My account was mixed up with an account that I had years ago at an old property. Somehow it was mixed up and I couldn't file the claim. So, I had to call in. The reps were good. The contractors did fine and were courteous. They told me that they would submit the claim to American Home Shield and that there were some expenses that would probably be my responsibility because of changes in our city code that weren't covered by AHS. They gave me a quote on what it would cost me out of pocket and what AHS would cover.
I wasn't happy with how much it was out of pocket for me so I did some homework on what it would cost to go elsewhere to get it done. I also found out what it would be if I get money from AHS and get my own plumber. I got a quote on that. I talked to the plumbing company that AHS sent out and they reduced my out of pocket. So, I went with them. It worked out fine.

I've had a couple of bad experiences with American Home Shield but recently was the worst. When I file a claim, it's pretty cut-and-dried, but I'm not pleased with their contractors. They seem to be substandard to me. They have a standard way of doing things and do not make any type of exceptions in the situations that come about. I had a faucet that was leaking but when the contractor came over, he didn't think it was leaking. I was willing to show him a video but we just went back and forth. Subsequently, I ended up replacing it myself. I paid the service charge, but they said they couldn't duplicate the problem so they felt it was not leaking.
The other day, I had a problem with my garbage disposal. Someone had already taken a look at it and I saw what the problem was. He said they were not gonna replace that and that he could give me a whole new garbage disposal. He put the garbage disposal in there but it's the loudest garbage disposal I have ever heard in my life. We went back and forth with that a lot and the contractor ended up saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it was working. Because someone had already come out here and did it, it was nothing they could do about it. I called American Home Shield back and was trying to explain to them the problem but they kept shooting me down and didn't listen. It was awful.

For all the years I've been with American Home Shield, they've been excellent. But this time was horrific. I did not have any washing machine for eight weeks. Sears couldn't fix it. They came out once a week and repaired every piece of equipment in the machine. The guys that came out were fabulous and wanted to fix it so bad but it still wouldn't work. We called Ramb's Appliance Repair because we love them. Their technician came out and he probably was the fourth one to come out. He fixed it immediately. He had a little pocket calculator and he plugged in all the information. He did exactly what they said to do on that, and within half an hour, he was done. I've washed clothes ever since.
We've had American Home Shield for years. I was an advocate of theirs and told everybody about them. But they left me for eight weeks without a washing machine and they kept bringing out people who didn't have the experience that we needed. I got on the phone with them and told them that. I was screaming and yelling at them. They could have called GE, which is my washer, and found out that they needed a qualified GE technician to fix it. The people who were here told them that. I'm so angry with American Home Shield. Right now we have an issue and my husband doesn't even think he wanna call them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been a bit rocky over the last six months. They have identified someone to respond, who did respond but did not complete the work. I am very unhappy with having to call a call center for AHS. I had a lot of difficulty in language barriers, response barriers, and inability to get direct contact to supervisors. AHS identified the contractor to come out and look at my oven. They came out and identified that there was a component that needed to be replaced, but because the unit is old they recommended back to AHS that the stove be replaced. AHS identified a no-cost replacement. They would also give options of equal value plus installation and disposal, but it could only come in a Lowe's card. They can also give some other options, but I would have to pay the difference.

American Home did a good job, but Sears was a lot more than slow. They missed the first and third appointment. On the second appointment, the tech came in and just confirmed we were right. He said we needed a new ice maker, and this and the other part. He said they'd order it for us and that it'd come to us. Then we should call him when we have it, and he'd come out. So, we called him and he never showed up. He finally came at another time, two weeks later, and said that one part was not right.
Finally, I called up American Home Shield and I explained to them what was going on. They reacted very well and did everything possible to get these guys out the next day. The guy that ultimately came out to fix it was very good. But the other guy was not. So, it took us too long to get this thing resolved. We started on July 29th and it was two weeks ago when it was finished. Other than that, we have AHS for over five years and it's worthy to have. They're supposed to be the best of the companies that provide this type of warranty and I intend on keeping it. But they don't have their own own people so your experience would depend upon the person that you get, like all companies.

But I like that I can call American Home Shield, pay $100 and they send somebody out to fix my issue. I normally don't have to pay anything more that was why the $1,286 that the repairman was charging me to install the water heater shocked me. I was expecting to pay something but not $1,286. He said it needed a modification. I told him the house was built in 2000, so there was nothing wrong with it. The water heater was replaced in 2015 and the contractor didn't say anything about that. They just put it in. He said, “Yeah, but you need to take this gas line out. We need to break the brick and go through the wall. I've been doing this for 20 years. I know what I'm talking about.” I didn't use him and got the water heater installed for $400.

The very first time the repairman came out, he was having a bad day. The communication wasn't there. I also didn't feel my property was valued. He was dealing with the dishwasher, and there was liquid and a smell from the garbage disposal. It was a mess. When he left, I had to ask him what was the conclusion. That was when he told me I needed a part and he had to order it.
Three weeks maybe went by then American Home Shield reached out. I explained to them that the order wasn't done. They told me that the guy was gonna be calling me. I ended up calling the guy and he came out. The second visit went very well. He came out into the house and was much more friendly. I knew what he needed this time so I had a pot there for any liquid that he was gonna have to drain. I had the towel there for him to put on my hardwood floors. He completed the job and redeemed himself. He also asked if I had any questions.
I always do my claims with American Home Shield online, and it's a quick process. I love it. The contractor usually calls me back and schedules within 24 hours, and I've had a pleasant experience every time. They come out and do the job. However, I'm paying American Home Shield every month, but I rarely use the service. I may have used it twice. Then when I call to use the service, I have to pay the 100-something dollars.

I was with Choice, and when I was shopping, I saw where American Shield included in a tune-up and putting freon in which Choice doesn't do. I quit Choice and went to American Shield because I thought they were a better plan. I've been with them for almost a year and I have referred several of my friends to them. My experience has been really good up until this point. I felt that I was taken advantage of. The original folks that were assigned to do the repairs on the air conditioning unit, NS Heat, didn't do what they were supposed to do. I have a Platinum plan and I thought the claim was included in my plan. But I had to pay $575 to set my modification and reinstall the line, and the warranty company paid $250.
At the time, I did because it was hot. It was in July. When the weather had dropped down, I cut the air conditioner off for the day. Then the next day got hot. When I turned my air conditioning unit on, I wouldn't get any cooling. The handler in my garage was freezing up. It shouldn't be happening because they just put a compressor and new freon in. I called American Home Shield back and told them that I didn't want NS Heat at my house anymore. I don't want anybody coming to my house, making repairs that I have to second guess they work. I put in another ticket, and Oasis came out. They showed me everything that should have been done that didn't get done. They were the ones that made me aware that I should not have paid for the $575, that it should have been included in the service. I was really disappointed to hear that.
American Home Shield told me they would escalate my case up to a supervisor which was what they probably should have done in the first place when I told them that NS Heat took that $575 from me that they shouldn't. But they were unwilling to work with me. On top of that, NS Heat told me they were gonna refund me last week but I haven't got my money.

With each set of specialties that I have gotten except for roofing, I've had an issue with American Home Shield. I paid for an HVAC person to come out. They told me I needed a whole new unit for $10,000 and some change. On another claim, after Albatross Appliance put the cooktop in, they were not able to continue to install the oven unit because of how the electrical work was. They asked if I wanted them to leave the oven unit or take it with them and I told them I wanted them to take it with them. Then they told me that I needed to call American Home Shield back and get an electrician.
At that point, I was already upset because in the appliance listings that I had given that needed some work done, one of them was the refrigerator because the ice maker wasn't working. On that refrigerator, I had to get another service for a plumber. Now I gotta pay $125 for a plumber for the ice maker for the refrigerator. Then I was hearing I have to pay another $125 for an electrician for them to do whatever they need to do to put the oven in. Before Albatross, another company was involved. But they found out I had a built-in oven and they don't do built-ins. That was another waste of time.
When I called in on Tuesday, I spoke with five different people and I had to tell my situation five separate times. Some people that I spoke with couldn't understand me. When I first started going about the appliances, it was the plumbing that gave the young lady a question mark and I couldn't explain it. But I could only tell her what the gentleman who serviced the appliance told me.
I had been recommended by two people to American Home Shield, one lives in Houston and the other was my son. I'm a single homeowner that was why I got them, and I've had them since maybe January. But If I had to do it again, I might do a little bit more research and see what other companies have to offer. I am going to continue with American Home Shield at this time, but only because I have a warranty for the appliances and the roof that I want to make sure everything got replaced or fixed. But after that, I'm not sure. Also, in retelling the story, my other girlfriend ended up getting rid of American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's service is fine, but the people that they hire are lacking. They are more so like mom and pop type of places or family owned businesses. They are not the upper end companies and not anybody that I would call. Thus far, I had my furnace as well as my air conditioning replaced. The companies that came out were fine, but it's only a one-year warranty. They come in and do the work, but they don't explain anything, then they're gone. I had to replace something on my garage door that was not functioning properly, and it still doesn't work to this day. It's the same issue.
Right now, I have some appliances that I need fixed and the parts were ordered, but this has been going on for over 30 days now. Today is the 18th. The guy said the last part came in on October 12. He called me that Friday and said, “Oh, I'll be out there on Saturday,” which was the next day. That's not how people do business. They ask to schedule a day. He said, “I'll just call you back.”
Prior to that, he said, “Oh, I couldn't get in contact with you because I didn't have your phone number.” “Well, you could have, for one, looked at the claim. Or you could have, two, gone to your supervisor or your boss with AHS and asked for my phone number. Not to mention we talked to each other and I know my phone number is in your phone.” The guy was supposed to arrive in my home between 9:00 and 11:00 today, but needless to say, an emergency came up. At 10:30, he called and said, “I will not be there. I can come tomorrow.” No. He's not coming tomorrow either.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

The guy that came from Universal Appliance was a cool guy. He looked at the issue and figured out that the unit needed three parts. He said he would get in touch with me and when the parts came in, they called and set up an appointment to come to my house. It turned out that he didn't need all the parts, but he was prepared to take care of it. I felt good about that. Universal Appliance has been in my house before, and I've no problem with them.
I'm happy about what American Home Shield does but they are very specific in what they will and won't repair. They put a lot of exclusions in their contracts. But I knew that going in so I'm gonna argue with them a little bit because of some things I totally disagree with, and I've never won an argument yet. You would think that your appliances are all covered but if you got a freestanding freezer, they won't even work on them.
When the compressor goes out in the air conditioner, typically, you would replace the unit outside, any line set, any A-coil. In their case, when my air conditioner went out, I called them to send someone out, and they told me that it was gonna cost me 1800 and some change for them to change out a compressor. I know that's a scam because it doesn't take that much. I'm a real estate guy so I own a bunch of properties and know a little bit about stuff. What they do is take the freon out of your air conditioner 'cause you can't put that stuff in the air. They put it in a holding tank then they go back and put that same freon back in your machine and charge you $90 a pound, and they only offer you $10 a pound. All home warranty companies are this way because I've dealt with a few of them.
The reason I do business with American Home Shield is I have a lot of stuff in my house and I don't wanna get something catastrophic. But this is the second time this particular AC had shorted out a compressor, and they're trying to do the same thing. I'm gonna tell them I don't want them to do the work 'cause I can get it done cheaper. I'll put my own compressor in and they'll probably send me a check for 800 bucks. They won't send me one of their compressors to put in because I'm not a tech, but I have a tech. I'm not paying them 1800 bucks to do something I can get done for 1200 bucks.
At one point, they worked on my ice machine and fixed it. Then I called them a year later and they said that that got taken off my plan. But I didn't take it off my plan 'cause I have an ice machine. They told me they automatically did it. I asked how could they automatically remove things and not tell the customer. They said they probably sent me something in the mail. I get at least 12 pieces of mail every day and it adds up pretty quickly. I might not open up anything that says American Home Shield on it 'cause I know it's not a bill and I'm on autopay. I pay them about $1800 a year, and I've maybe called them three times throughout these years. I'm not saving any money but I don't wanna deal with problems at my house because I'm never there. It's easier for me to have somebody meet them there and let them in.

I've had American Home Shield for 15 years and the service people have been good except for this last one. I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau and they had an F rating. They were horrible. The guy came out and wanted to charge $1,375 to put Freon in our air conditioning unit, but we didn't pay it. We ended up going with another company and getting a whole new unit. American Home Shield paid zero towards it. Our contract is due in February, and I'm gonna drop them.

At the end of the day, American Home Shield came through. I was having a lot of issues with a claim I had opened up back in August. I had my washing machine and dryer out at one time. The bottom part of the refrigerator was also freezing and the ice maker stopped working. Ice water was dripping and all my food was getting frosted. My stove was also leaking gas. You could smell the gas and I have kids up in here. I had the gas company out here and at one point, I called up the fire department who told me to step outside. They did a little testing and said it was coming from the stove and that there was nothing they could do. I kept calling American Home Shield for a recall because the vendors that they were sending out here kept saying they didn't smell it. They eventually replaced it for me, and I appreciate them.
I had one bad incident with one contractor, Mr. Appliance. The technician came to my front door when all my signs around my house clearly said to use the back door. He rung my doorbell five times. When I went to the door, he introduced himself as the contractor but never showed me his badge. I said, “Sir, the sign clearly asks to come around the back.” He said, “You know what? Get someone else,” and he walked off. That was very rude and unprofessional.
At that point, I immediately called American Shield while he was sitting in his car, and I explained to them what he had done to me. The young man told me to wait until they get an investigation. That was mean because I'm the customer letting him know what was going on and he should treat me with a little more concern. I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor and when the supervisor got on the phone, they immediately said they were gonna assign someone else to me right then. They did and got me another contractor, and I called them and scheduled another appointment. Other than Mr. Appliance, everyone has been very nice. They let me know what they're doing and what's going on here.
I've been with American Home Shield for an awfully long time and I'm glad to have them because every time I call, they take care of me. They are always nice to me. I like the website as well. It's very easy to understand. When I first got them, I was only paying $54. But every year, it increases. But it's worth it, considering I'm a single mother with a home, and I can't afford to pay for anything if something breaks up. I'd recommend American Home Shield to everybody.
Dear Sharon, We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

Submitting service requests through American Home Shield has always been simple. I type it in my phone through online using the internet, and it always says confirmed and takes my payment. They come and take care of everything. I have a downstairs AC unit as well as an upstairs AC unit, and my upstairs AC unit would not work. It would not come on, react or do anything. I submitted a service request and within two days, somebody contacted me to get my repair done. The technician American Home Shield sent out said that he needed to send somebody else because the unit was upstairs behind a wall. He couldn't access that. I was at work, and my wife told me this. I thought, "I don't think that's right." American Home Shield sent a different technician out and I was correct. It was not right.
The unit was right there in plain sight upstairs in the attic. The secondary technician put a new motor on and it's a little louder than I would like, but everything's running good now. American Home Shield makes the warranty worth the value of the money. It's definitely worth purchasing a home and getting it wrapped up to make sure that there are no surprises during the first few years.

I've had American Home Shield for several years on several properties, and the experience is as expected, which is generally a pain. They're very hard to work with. Most of the time, it's taking forever to get things done. They're not approving things or they'll send you something and say they have a partial approval but they can't tell me what a partial approval means.
I put a request in July for my refrigerator, and it just got fixed last week. I had two things which was an oven and a refrigerator that the technician was to look at. But he came ill-equipped to look at anything and didn't have anything to check the temperature of the fridge. He ordered the parts for the stove but didn't even look at the fridge and said he’d give it some time.
When he came back to fix the oven, he acted like the refrigerator was a whole big new issue. In American Home Shield’s mind, the case was closed ‘cause he fixed my oven. It went off their radar. I kept trying to get with the contractor which was a back and forth until I finally was able to get it escalated. Once I got it escalated to American Home Shield, the young lady that I was assigned was amazing. She did a very good job of staying with me. She got a new contractor assigned and new contractor was very efficient. They made the appointment and got things done very fast.

I've had them for eight years and every time I've had a problem, I've paid my fee and their contractor has come out and it's gotten fixed or replaced. Recently, Matlock Rooter Services came out on the same same for a backup in my plumbing and they were out by 2:00. The issue was fixed almost immediately. They were awesome.

Two of my kids had American Home Shield. One of them recently sold their home and moved. The other one discontinued service because they were dissatisfied. They had two issues with their heating unit in two different years, and both times, AHS was not able to provide them a contractor, so they ended up having to pay their own repair even though they were covered. That caused that child to terminate that service. And they are not interested in it. I like knowing that any major things are covered but AHS could improve. There was a time when there was not a contractor that would work on air conditioning and heating in our area. However, the company AHS has out of Enid is very good.
My air conditioning unit stopped cooling. I called that in with AHS on a Sunday afternoon, and a technician with Kemp Heating & Air called me the next day before nine o'clock. By that afternoon, they had come and fixed my problem. I was impressed. The gentleman was very polite. He came to the door, said they scheduled an appointment. They were on time. It took him 20 minutes to locate and fix the problem. He notified me that it was fixed, and it was.

Central Jersey was sent by American Home Shield for my furnace. We've been having a problem with the heating system. It's getting old, and the guy from Central Jersey Heating & Cooling has always been nice. He comes right away. He looks at it. He keeps saying, “Eventually, you're gonna need a new unit, but it's okay for now.” He fixes it. He's a great guy. He does a great job. His name is Mike.
I had a couple of terrible incidents with American Home Shield, though, over the years. One is with my furnace. Central Jersey Heating & Cooling always took care of my heating system, and the owner was leaving to go abroad. Because I had a problem with it. The guy said, “Listen. I will give you the name of another company to tell American Home Shield that maybe they can give you, and I'll tell him the whole system and how it's running and everything. And hopefully you'll get them. Tell them you want this company. Just do not use this one guy.”
The company was called Excalibur. He said, “Just don't use this one company because they'll come out and try to scam you and stuff.” So, I called American Home and Shield and they gave me that company. I said, “No, no. I trust my heating guy. The one you gave me. He said don't use them.” The company came out. It was two young guys with nose rings and tattoos. They're in their early twenties. They went down the basement. They didn't even ask what was wrong with it. They went down the basement. 90 seconds later, they came up and said, "Oh, your system's leaking carbon monoxide and we had to turn it off. You need a new system. It's gonna be thousands of dollars, and we can't get there for 10 days.”
I said, “Wait a minute. I have American Home Shield. I've had a company look at it all this time. They warned me about you.” "Well, we just turned it off, so we couldn't get the heating system to work." I had to call a company and pay cash for them to come out and look at it because American Home Shield screwed me and said, “Look. You have to get a new furnace now because this company came and looked at it, and that's what they said.” I said, “No. They wanna put all new stuff in. And even if I need a new heating system, I don't need all these crazy things. I pay $200 a month. They wanna charge me $5,000 for a furnace. This is ridiculous!”
It was awful. The company wouldn't help me. I had to call somebody else. They put the heater back on. Now, the heater was working when that company came. It was just making a little rattling sound. I said, “Before it gets any worse, let me call.” I had another plumber come out. They looked at everything, and he said, “No, it's barely a little rattle. It was just like a little dust in it. There's no CO2.” I paid for a carbon monoxide detector and there was zero leakage from it. So the problem was that after that company came, American Home Shield refused to help me.

I've had American Home Shield out three times. One was for a garbage disposal and an instant hot. They repaired the garbage disposal. The instant hot, the plumber who they got said that it had been unplugged, and therefore, it was not under American Home Shield's warranty. So, they would not repair that. The second time, I had a washing machine that the lock was broken. So, it wouldn't start. I gave them all the information, emailed it to them, and the person that they sent out said he had to get a part, which kind of aggravated me since I had said exactly what the code was and what was wrong. The part was going to be a week to 10 days. And at that point, I was going on vacation. So, it ended up waiting until we got back from vacation.
The last time I had them out was to fix a clogged toilet and a leak in a pipe. Because it was a shower pad, that's not covered under American Home Warranty. So, they can't fix that. Because the clog was a foreign object, they don't repair that either. On the first claim, the tech never contacted me and it had been like three days. I contacted American Home Shield and they were sending somebody else out. The next thing I know, this guy comes to my door and he was from the original company that they had sent out. I was a little taken aback. He said, "Oh, we were the ones who were assigned and you have to take us." So, I wasn't really crazy about that. The second technician really didn't know. He just seemed like, "Okay, I'm just gonna check this out and we have to do this part." The third guy they sent out was right on. He knew everything that was going on. So, he was really good.

I needed that ASAP. But they wind up coming the next day because I called them personally.
I think if a customer calls and they need something special, especially with water, they need the service to be the same day. It could’ve been worse there. The rep that came out was great. Carlos was his name. He had to find out where the leak was coming from. I showed them where the leak was. He went in his investigation and then found out where it was coming from. The leak came from an upstairs unit. The seal was not closed and the water was getting in that way, causing the drip into my basement. His knowledge was good for me. He solved the problem.

American Home Shield has taken my money and they've done absolutely nothing for me except make my problem worse. My latest claim is still open. It's been open for over two and a half months now. My dishwasher stopped working. The first person that they wanted to send out canceled on me the day they were supposed to be here after I already took off work. Then they sent out a different vendor and they came out and they ordered parts. Then I had to wait another two weeks for them to install the parts. And then when they came out to install them, they said that my dishwasher was installed incorrectly and I had to get someone to pull it out so that they could get to it to fix it. In the meantime, they made it so I have no hot water in my kitchen.
American Home Shield has still done absolutely nothing about that. They've reconnected me with the first vendor. And twice this week that they were supposed to come out and fix it, they've canceled on me, once at 4:40 in the evening, and once at 4:45 in the evening after I took off work. It's still not fixed. When I lived in Texas, AHS had wonderful customer service. It has obviously changed. I would not recommend anyone ever waste their money. I could have gotten my dishwasher fixed a lot cheaper. I've been paying them for a year. This is the first time that I've had to use them and they refused to pay me. I've taken a week's vacation. And now, I have to take over a week's vacation for them to send out vendors that either don't show or make things worse.

I turned in my claim to American Home Shield on a Thursday and then May got back with me the next day to schedule an appointment. They wanted to do it Monday, but we were going to the beach. So, we scheduled it for this last Friday. They gave me a timeframe of 8:00 to noon, and they were here about 9:00. They called before they came. They gave me an estimated time of arrival. They were right on the dot. The guy was very nice. He went out. He found some issues with the air conditioning and resolved them. So, we were very happy. The air conditioning system wouldn't come on. Something happened during the storm. We had an emergency whole house generator.
We have two air conditioning systems. And when they come on, the lights are dim. Then one time, when they dimmed, the air conditioner didn't come back on but he figured it out and was very professional and thorough. We probably spent 45 minutes over here, and part of that was explaining things to me. I had to have another person come over. They thought that I needed a $6,000 outside unit, and May fixed it for nothing.
Having a warranty with American Home Shield is not cheap. But in the long run, if you have to have something expensive fixed, it's certainly worth it. Most of our repairs have just been minor items, but it's there. We worry about stuff going wrong. When we bought this house, we gutted it and did some new systems. So, there wasn't a lot to go wrong except for this one air conditioner. That was one of the old ones at the house. Everything else is under warranty. But still, AHS is there if you need it, and they've always been very responsive. They charge us 100 bucks.
We're on the plan where we give them 100 bucks up front for setting up the appointment. And then when a guy comes out, we don't owe anything else. I don't think you can beat that. I think most service calls from air conditioning people are $100. The price has gone up. When we first started with them, it was like $40 a month. And now, it's 90 something. That's about $1,000 a year. They do have limits as far as what they will pay for certain systems. So, you're not completely free-of-charge. But on the other hand, I was reading and I didn't realize that if you wanted to put a whole air conditioning system in your house, they could get you a deal on it. So, apparently, they got some purchasing power.

I remember a time we had an issue with our air conditioning unit, and it was challenging. I can't remember the people that they assigned to us but it was not good service, talking to that contractor, when you call their number. It wasn't the lady's fault at all. It was really challenging for us to have a conversation. We're talking about possibly replacing an air conditioning unit. And then trying to call American Home Shield because I wasn't getting answers, and it was taking a long time to get this fixed, I could never get through to talk to anybody. It was incredibly frustrating. And there's not a ton of American Home Shield like companies to turn to.
It's been hit or miss. Sometimes it's been really good. We've had some other jobs that they've come out to fix. This past summer there was the air conditioning up in the attic was leaking and it wasn't anything major, but the guy was all over it and was great. So, the one guy, the contractor, when I was having a lot of the air conditioning replace said American Home Shield offered that I could get another whole new unit. He said, "Why didn't you go with it?" I said, "I hate to say this, but I could not understand the woman and I didn't have enough -- I was too afraid that something would happen and I wouldn't be able to talk to anybody.” So, it's been hit or miss.

I've been using American Home Shield for about 10 years. I'm totally satisfied with them. My most recent claim was excellent. The guy came out. He looked and told me what the problem was. They couldn't do anything about it because it wasn't covered by warranty, which is great. I've got another vendor who could do it for me. I've only had one negative experience with a vendor which was about eight years ago, but when I contacted American Home Shield, they sent a second person out to validate what the first person did.
We found out that the first person had done everything wrong. They corrected it, and they went back to that vendor and made them pay back all the funds that they had paid to them and took them off their listing. I've tried different home protection programs and Choice Home Warranty was one of them, and American Home Shield has them beat by a long shot with service, price, and the quickness of the responses. I had nothing but 100% positive contact with them.

The air conditioning unit in our property has never worked properly. My son is the one living there. We call American Home Shield and have them come out to fix it, and somebody would come out and they would add a little Freon. It would stay okay for about a week or two. Then it would start failing again. This went on and on up until the last time we called and had them come out where they sealed the leak. They didn't find it. My son's wife's father works in construction. He knew people in the industry, and they had a guy come out to take a look at the air conditioning. He found the leak in about five minutes. None of the people through AHS in the six trips coming out found or suspected the leak.
Overall, I am horribly disappointed with American Home Shield. There is no way I'm gonna extend that to another year. American Home Shield did not find the leak. The guys that they sent out did stop the leak. They fixed it. The people were so unqualified and so inept. I don't think they even knew what they were doing. My son and his wife were living with us for about three weeks because they couldn't live at home.

My last experience with American Home Shield wasn't very good. I'm thinking about getting out of it. Winston Doors came out and worked on my garage door. They told me they were gonna replace it. The tech worked on my garage for over two hours trying to get it to work. He had old parts in his truck trying to piece together so it will work, and I didn't appreciate that. He came out the next day and said he's gonna replace the circuit board, which when I called them, they said that they were gonna replace the whole garage door opener. I guess it was a misunderstanding. So, he replaced that and then it worked. He changed that eye at the end of the garage. Instead of replacing both of them, he just replaced one, and I didn't understand that. So, I wasn't really happy with that.
All the other experiences I've had with AHS have been really good. It was my second time getting the garage door worked on. I spent $200 the first time. As soon as the warranty was off, 30 days later, it messed up again. So, I waited a couple of years and then it messed up again. I was going back and forth and in and out the garage through the house. It's getting cold and it's dangerous out there, so I wanted to get it fixed. That was when I called them back out there, and they should have just replaced it.

Weathervane came out, they got the fan running on the condenser, and they told me that that was all they could do because everything had to be specified even though the air conditioner heater itself hasn't been working right since September 13th when the first people came out and looked at it. I also told them that the ductwork was clogged. I said, “Hmmm. Just overnight, the duct work clogged and now it doesn't blow?”
When Weathervane came out, they thought it was under a different address. It's a different mailing address, but it's all the same property because it's a single family home. So it took a little while to get them to come back out. Even though I showed them the contract, they had to get an okay and a promise of payment from American Home Shield before they would come out. They freed up the fan on the condenser and said that that was all they could do because that's what the specific problem was. So, it still doesn't work right, and I'm so tired of screwing with these people.
When I requested service to AHS, I did it online. But about 30 calls later, I finally got somebody out there. It's all the same thing. They have to have a script that they're reading from. You can understand very few of them when they're speaking to you. They don't have the same answers, too, because one minute, they're saying, “Oh, you don't qualify because it's your ductwork.” You can't make them understand that, “No, the ductwork is not plugged up. The one thing that he said was the ductwork isn't even a duct. It's just a fake vent in the ceiling. Like they may have put one up there and then changed their mind and took it back out.” I was like, “This kid got up there and looked at the ductwork and came to the conclusion that it was the duck work was clogged," and they believed him, and it took forever to get somebody to come out there and look at it, but it doesn't work. You can feel the air when you're real close to the ceiling.
I would not recommend anybody have anything to do with those people because they're gonna lie. They're gonna do everything they can to not have to pay you. I had a manager call me at 9:30 at night and tell me that he didn't even have anybody in this area that could work on it, and offered to give me back the $125 that I had already paid for the first dingaling to show up and tell me it was my ductwork. I said, “I don't want the $125 back. I want the AC fixed.” So, they finally contacted Weathervane. I've gotten online and I've looked, and there are so many dissatisfied people out there. I wish I had done my homework before I said, “Put American Home Shield on there.”

The tech from Long Lane came in the time span. He knew what he was doing. He got the part. He fixed it and he left, but he said, “Look at it for a couple of days just to make sure.” So, I'm still looking at making sure it doesn't leak anymore, but so far, it's been good. As far as American Home Shield's customer service, they hit and miss. I waited a couple of days. I couldn't use the air but my basement was flooded. They say they were gonna escalate it, but they didn't. So, I waited for four days. I just constantly picked up the water.
Overall, American Home Shield is good. I have problems when I have to get the contractors. The thing is the air conditioner always goes out. After the 30 days, it'll go back. Then something else will happen, and American Home Shield has just been fixing. Many times, they have different people coming out here and fixing the air conditioning. The most recent time, they had two different contractors come out. One didn't do anything. It was scorching hot. Another company came out, and American Home Shield was saying that person was not supposed to come out, but they were the one who told them. I didn't call them. They were the one who gave them the service request. The other one came back out again. And after the third time, they finally fixed the problem.
Now, the thing is leaking. It was the motor that was leaking, and it was flooding my basement. So, I just fixed it but something else has happened. I had to call them back. It's just it's always after the 30 days. Eventually, my stuff gets fixed and I don't have problems all the time. Also, it seems they have better contractors now. They had some contractors they’ve been having problems with. The ones that I encountered this time seem to be good. They've been very professional and knew what they were doing.

I did a work order for air condition and the technician said that I needed a compressor. After I paid my $125 deductible, they said my part was gonna be $1,510. I asked them what fee was they gonna pay if I had to pay that much for a compressor? They were charging me for Freon, but it already had Freon in it. They were also charging me for some type of line. They wouldn't give me a breakdown of the charges and the total price. They only gave the breakdown of what they wanted me to pay. I wasn't pleased with American Home Shield. I bought an entire unit out of my pocket because the guy that came said that that compressor was gonna still go out. So I just got rid of American Home Shield. When I told them that I wanted to cancel, they tried to give me two months free and my 125 back. But I told them to keep it and I wanted to terminate.

My recent claim went really, really bad. I was looking at replacing a $27,000 boiler in my house, and they said they were only gonna pay $2,500 of that. That was pretty bad. They sent somebody out here to look at the boiler. It was a company called Supreme Heating and Air Conditioning. They took one glance at my boiler and said, “You need a new boiler.” They started to write it up, and they told me where it was leaking and all of the other stuff that was going on.
I got a second opinion from somebody that I know and I trust, and lo and behold, he happens to be an expert on one of those boilers. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my boiler. It wasn't leaking. He cleaned it, did maintenance work on it, and it's working absolutely fine. So the people that American Home Shield sent me were trying to scam me. My interactions with the people that American Home Shield sent me are usually pretty bad. I'm sorry I renewed my warranty on it. If I could get my money back, I would because they're worthless.

So that made it really nice. After the first time that the contractor came out, the refrigerator was not getting as quite as cold it was. The contractor came back right away. The tech told me that I should call the office and let them know to get it done as soon as possible. So I did that and again, the tech came out really quick. Everything was great. I really appreciate Patrick. He was the guy that I got from Cal's Appliances. American Home Shield did great. The people from American Home Shield that I have dealt with on the phone have always been kind and helpful. They communicate good. And any time I've called, they responded in a timely manner. We've had them for many months. But we never used them for anything and had two things that happened almost back to back. A water heater that leaked and a burner on the stove that wouldn't work. AHS sent a contractor to look at the water heater. They called me later and said, "Good news. Your water heater and the labor is completely covered with your plan." I have the premium plan.
However, the company that will do the work said that I had three code violations and two other things. We built the home seven years ago and it passed inspection with flying colors. At my own expense, I brought another company out to look at it. There was nothing that they needed to bring up to code in order to put a new water heater in. They did and they were great. It cost me $2,900. The other people upcharged. I didn't wanna trust a company that would lie to me or try to scam me to pay them more money. It would be paid directly to them, not to AHS. That's why I didn't like AHS' vendor. Their vendor has most likely found out another way to make some money. They wouldn't repair or replace the item unless I went with what they said my code violations were for them to fix all that for me. That did not sit well.
I did the cash in lieu option with AHS. I was very disappointed with that amount. They gave me $625. There is no way that any company could put a brand new water heater in with labor and it would be only $625. They should have paid me with what the cost of the company that they contracted with was, not counting the $900 of their up charges. But if they would do it for $1,800 or $2,200, that is what they should have sent me. There was no way that they would only pay that company $625. I did get the money. We just have to pay the difference from the 2,900.
The other thing was, which is even worse, the burner on the stove wouldn't light up. This company came in a timely manner. When the tech left, the burner worked, which was wonderful. I thought, "Okay, this is how this whole thing works. This is fine." Cost us $125 for the visit, and now everything works. However, my husband discovered that he did not bolt the burner back down to the stovetop, and that was a very dangerous situation. I called AHS. They were wonderful. They said, "No problem. We'll do a recall. It won't cost you anything. They'll come back out." The contractor came back out in a day. It was a different person. I saw him walking in our house. I was outside. He just had a tiny kit, like he would just go in and bolt two things down.
He said it couldn't be bolted back down because it was stripped. So the guy that came to repair it, broke it. He got the burner working. He left knowing it wasn't bolted down and was stripped and never told us. I don't want those people coming back to work on my stove. I have said I wanted the cash in lieu option on that. If I couldn't trust them, why in the world would I let them come back? They said the stove would either have to be overhauled or replaced. I got a notice that said parts have been ordered. I called and said, "Wait a minute, I've talked to someone just last week. And I was under the impression that we were gonna do a cash in lieu plan." The lady was very nice and explained how it worked. She told me, "I know that, but the appliance company has to call us and tell us that you want the cash in lieu option." It's stupid.
I said, "I'm on the phone with you right now telling you I want the cash option. Why do I have to wait for them to call you? Besides, I tried to call them yesterday and they've never returned my call." She got on the phone and they didn't answer her call either. She left a message and she sent an email. That's how the process works. But I don't know what money I'll get from that. But I will not have a company come into my house and repair anything when they left us in a dangerous situation and didn't even tell us that they broke something. All they had to do was say, "We stripped it. Don't use this burner, okay? It's dangerous." We would have been fine if accidents happened.

I sent in a claim for my air conditioner. I had a leak but my initial call was because there was ice outside. It froze up. Then the thermostat was going up and it wasn't cooling in the house. So, TJ Morgan came out four times because it kept happening over and over. Every time they would come out, they would put Freon in it, and then they had to leave. This started in July, and it didn't get fixed until October.
The fourth time that the tech came out, he went in the attic and he said that he found the leak. It was some kind of evaporator coil leak. But a week before he came out, I kept having to call them. One time, I had to call twice in one week. But when he came out, he was very thorough. His name was Robert. He was an older guy. But the guy that came before him didn't even go in the attic. He just put Freon in it and he said that it should be okay. Then Robert said that the other guy should have gone in the attic this time and checked for a leak because as soon as he went in the attic, he found the leak.
On October 7th, they replaced the air handling unit. Three guys came out. One guy was outside doing something with the outside unit, and then the two guys were in the attic. They replaced it and then left. When I came home from work, the house was hot. I called TJ Morgan and they sent somebody back out. He was the guy that was outside. He said that that was their fault because they did not seal something. Something wasn't caulked right and that was why it wasn't cooling. He caulked and sealed whatever it was that they did not seal right and it's been working ever since. But I didn't have a good experience with American Home Shield this time either.
The part was ordered on September 12th and American Home Shield said it was gonna come on September 23rd. American Home Shield customer service kept putting me on hold saying they had to call the parts purchasing department to see where the part was. Every day from the 23rd to the 1st, I kept calling them and they kept saying they didn't know where the part was and that the supplier just said it was shipped, but nobody had any tracking. Then TJ Morgan called on October 1st and told me that the part was in and they were gonna come out on the 2nd. They came and went. But American Home Shield still didn't even know that they had come out. It was a big mess.

I like that American Home Shield doesn't send their own employees, but they send contractors. The first claim that I had was a $900 job, and American Home Shield did it without saying a word. It was a compressor in the refrigerator.
This time, I sent in a claim for a leaky shower. The guy came and he was very cordial. He did more than I even asked him to. So, I was very, very pleased. They responded quickly. With my first claim, it took them one day to come out. It was supposed to take four days, but they had a cancellation. I called them on a Friday and then tech came out on Monday. The second time with the plumber, he came the same day that I sent in the claim. When I called American Home Shield, they told me that the contractor would be M & G. American Home Shield sent me a subcontractor that was not in the same county. I expressed my concern about that and they still set me with that subcontractor. That subcontractor came to my house and all they said to me was, "It's not working." I said, "No **. That's why I called in the service." The tech sent in his report. Two weeks later, AHS sent somebody else and the tech said the same thing to me. "Oh, it's not working." No tools, no parts, no nothing.
Between those two weeks that AHS sent two guys, their office called me offering me a free part and to get my unit working in exchange for a 5-star review on their website. I refused. I called AHS and explained to them the situation. I had minors in the house. I was without hot water for a whole month. I kept on telling AHS to send me somebody that was closer to me. They wouldn't do it because there were channels to go through. I understood. I was patient. But after they tried to bribe me into giving them a 5-star review on the platform, I lost it.
AHS finally sent somebody else. That person told me it was something different that was wrong with my unit. They fixed it, but I had out-of-pocket costs. I was very patient and I said, "This is what this guy said. No tools. All he did was try to turn on the unit, which I did myself. And obviously, if it doesn't turn on, it's because something's wrong." I'm considering looking for something else.

I like Bennett Air. I had a good experience with them. But I don't care for American Home Shield. It's a rip-off just like all insurance. I put in what my issue was, and AHS sent me back an email with the name of the vendor they would send out. They took care of it. When the contractor came out to fix the issue the first time, they did fix the issue, but AHS told me there was some out-of-pocket cost that I needed to pay to get it completely fixed. With the amount of money that I pay every month, I should not have had to come out of my pocket with anything. So in actuality, I paid full price for the system. I opted not to get it fixed to that degree, but just to replace what I had. But AHS offered me a good deal on what I replaced it with. I got an estimate from another place and the estimate that I had for AHS was better than the one from the other place where I got an estimate.

I recommend American Home Shield to friends all the time. I've had the contractor out before. They're very good. The toilet ran. The plumber replaced the flapper. Also, he gave me a hand because my air conditioning had been leaking into my laundry room. He connected the hose that was not connected to anything into the laundry hose so it wouldn't leak anymore. I wish the price could be improved but everything else is okay.
We appreciate the review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

The contractor came out twice. The first one was about the duct system at the house. The most recent one was the AC unit. The reason I reached out to American Home Shield was over the summer, my electric bill hit $400. I tried to figure out what the heck is drawing so much power and causing much hype. The duct system, according to the tech, looked solid. He reviewed the AC unit and noticed that the fan and its components were off-balance. Every time it spun, the fan wobbled. He's in the process of replacing those components so it wouldn't wobble and cause more damage.
I am located in a part of Illinois which is considered country to most people. Resources are somewhat limited as well as competition-wise. There are a lot of companies who do not support or use AHS. Some time ago, I wanted a plumber to come out to flush out the plumbing. It took AHS over a week before they came back to me and said, "We couldn't find anybody." They gave me this paperwork to say, "You need them to fill this out. You need to scan this," and a bunch of stuff. I said, "I ain't doing that crap. I'll scan it. You can go talk to them yourself." They didn't like that. So, I'm out 150 bucks. It should have cost me $100.
I’d like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the difficulties you’ve been experiencing and would like to discuss this more. Feel free to contact me at consumeraffairs@ahs.com.

We've had American Home Shield for about 12 years, and we like how easy it is to use if something breaks. The technicians that are sent out are 50/50. Half the time, they're really good, and half the time, they're not good. The last claim that we did was for the dishwasher. Somebody came and assessed it. They ordered the part. It came quickly. It was good.

The furnace wouldn't cut on. It has been working since the tech left. He did a good job. Last year, I had a different issue with the furnace. The switchboard needed to be switched out. The person that American Home Shield sent came three times. When he left, it would only work temporarily. He said it wasn't fixable. AHS said I had to buy a new furnace, which would cost me a couple of thousand dollars. But I asked them, "Can you send someone else different? 'Cause I need a second opinion before I go spend all this money."
The only way I was able to get someone different sent out was I threatened to cancel. They said, "Let us send someone else first." I said, "That should have happened before. This is the fourth time y'all are sending somebody out." They ended up sending someone else, the man switched out the board, and it was fine after that. So, I didn't need to replace the furnace. It was fixable. The board just needed to be switched. Also, AHS keeps going up every year. I keep having to pay more. When I started, I paid 50-something dollars. Now, I'm over $70 a month. I had thought about looking for someone else.
We appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was terrible. As a matter of fact, my husband and I are cancelling our American Home Shield subscription. We've had this since 2020, and it seems that every time someone comes out, it is something additional. Earlier this summer, my air conditioning went out. They told me that the air conditioning unit was covered. The people came out. They put Freon in it. We paid the exorbitant price for the Freon. Then the unit went out shortly after that. I called them back, the AC people came out, and we needed a new unit. American Home Shield said it will not do the secondary causes. No one is outside fiddling with it. Whatever is going on, it's something in the air conditioning unit. They would not replace it. They were only gonna pay a certain amount. We had to pay the other $2,200 for the unit.
Then in September, something was going on with my water heater. With the air conditioning unit, I specifically asked, "What is covered? What am I paying for every month?" They told me water heaters are covered. When my water heater had an issue, we paid the $100. A plumber came out. The plumber said, "You need two valves replaced." We paid an additional $267. He replaced the valve. That was September 16th. The first week of October, my water heater ruptured in my home. We called American Home Shield. They sent the plumber out. The plumber wasn't talking to us. This was the same company that did the work in September. He came back in and said, "They're not going to pay. You have to pay for your water heater." Due to secondary causes, they were not gonna pay. Whatever is going on, surely, a licensed plumber knew this in September when they replaced.
They said that the water heater erupted due to high pressure. The plumber in September knew that it was high pressure. Because he told my husband, "Oh, I turned your water pressure down." He didn't tell us that it was hot. He just said he turned it down. The same company came out, and that was the secondary reason why AHS was not gonna pay for it. It is a scam. They do not do what they say. They do a bait and switch with customers telling them that, "Oh, these things are covered." Then when something happens to the thing, they have the out of saying, "Oh, it's due to secondary reasons."
I called my insurance company. They told me to call a reputable company like Servpro, and I did. Servpro came out that day and started the remediation process. A plumber came out the next day and replaced my water heater. We are in the process now of getting our home repaired. My whole kitchen ceiling is cut open. We won't be dealing with American Home Shield anymore. I will tell no one else that I know not to deal with them because it feels like a whole scam.
The very first time we filed a claim with them, we paid $100 for the service call. It was for my dishwasher. The person came out. He said that there was something wrong with the hose in the dishwasher. He replaced the hose, the dishwasher works, and that was fine. We had another claim with them for a sink in one of the bathrooms, and the guy said, "Your sink needs to be replaced." We had to pay for that. American Home Shield did not cover that. When that plumber came out, they didn't cover that. Other than the very first time we dealt with them, every single time, it has been, "Oh, well, yeah, but we don't do that. Oh, but your issue was this? Oh, well, that's secondary. We don't cover that." It feels very subjective.
The customer service person who denied our claim with the water heater was Ashley. The plumber was here, and then he had the people on speaker. My husband and I tried to explain to Ashley what was going on. She said, "Yeah, but it's due to secondary causes." We are not plumbers. We do not fool with the water heater. It would not have been a secondary issue had the plumber addressed the issue properly the first time.
My experience overall has been poor. American Home Shield did not provide the services that they told us was covered in our policy, which makes us feel that for four years, we paid them $67 a month, $100 every single time we filed a claim. We ended up paying $400 for a sink. We ended up paying $2,200 for AC unit. We ended up paying a plumber to come and replace our water heater. We had to go through our insurance company. So, it feels like a used car salesman type deal and we don't need it. The plumber that they use quoted us a price of $2,607 for a water heater. We paid a thousand dollars less than that for our water heater to be serviced. Something is not right with American Home Shield and the people that they use.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Our warranty was bought by the Realtor who sold us the house. We've been in it for a year. In the first three months, there were four things, which was fine. It was a settling in. Maybe the prior folks ignored certain things. One of them was regarding a stove, and American Home Shield sent someone out who was not knowledgeable about that kind of stove. He disappeared. I didn't hear from him. Two weeks went by. AHS sent somebody else out after multiple complaints, who ordered parts again. It was four months until it was fixed. It was a stove we use all the time. So, I was not happy.
AHS relied on their vendor and didn't get involved when I asked them to. I did phone calls the last time to say, “This isn't done yet.” I would get an answer. “It's gonna take another week or two.” I went online, bought the parts, and called the vendor. He was surprised to hear that I had the parts. He came and fixed it. It took no time. I didn't know what the problem was, if it was getting approval for the parts from AHS. It was under $100 to buy the parts. It was not a good moment, and I was resolved that I would live out the warranty and move on. Having to pay the 125 on top of it each time you call, or whether buy it for a year, get to know the vendors you like, drop AHS and continue to work with those vendors. But after this recent experience, I feel better about it.
We had an alarm going off that we didn't know the reason for having to do with the external septic sump pump outside our house. It was a better experience than I have had in the past, so I was very impressed. It was quick. I got the name of the vendor quickly and gave him a call. He was in the neighborhood and came by the same morning. It was easy for him. He gave me four reasons why it happened, and tested those out. It's working fine. We filled it with water and it drained. It was great.
Thanks James. We’re thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

He fixed it so it doesn't leak anymore. It was a quick turnaround. There is always quick turnaround from AHS even from other claims that they worked on.

My air conditioner wasn't blowing cool air. I requested service from AHS and their website was easy to navigate. They gave me the name and phone number of the contractor, and when the tech came out, he was very good. It turned out that I had to have a battery changed in the condenser unit and he did it. The young man was knowledgeable and professional. I've been happy with AHS for 25 years. I like the fact that the response is very quick when I notify AHS that I have an issue. They tell me who it’s going to be that's going to fix it and generally, they're out here within a day or two. Every issue I've ever had has been rectified for the amount of $100, which is the copay.

I'm an owner of a rental property, and when I had a claim, I called American Home Shield on the phone. The rental property had a water tank that was leaking, and they had a plumber come and replace it for me. The plumber said that I would have been responsible to get the water tank to that location, and I was not a fan of that because if he didn't have a truck or a car big enough to fit the water tank in there, that's not really helping me out. Homeowners can't necessarily get a tank there. Luckily, the water heater was leaking down into the crawl space and American Home Shield didn't wanna cause additional damage, so they let him pick it up.

Gleaning Hands Appliance Repair did very good. They had to fix the ice maker in a Samsung refrigerator and a range heating element. It was a quick response and they completed the service within a few days. On the other hand, I had another service request that took three months. It's another company that's doing the dryer, and they still haven't completed the job. They lost the request three times, the parts ordered. The fulfillment for parts would need to be improved.

I'm satisfied with Burton's and I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.

So far, my experience with AHS has been great. We had a very few calls, and everything's been resolved quickly. We had a heater issue recently. The water had been running cold quickly. Whenever the person came over, he was able to identify the issue. There was a faulty tube and on the day of, he went and got parts and was able to fix it. It's been working great so far.
The response of AHS was very quick. The technician who came over was very knowledgeable. He was very polite, and respectful and got the job done quickly. Communication was great. I don't know if it was an easy fix or something routine or not, but he made it seem like he knew exactly what he was doing. Having AHS has been easy and helpful, and it removed the doubt of having to check with a couple of people, get quotes, and look at reviews.

To simply ask American Home Shield for service is easy, but they consistently have no idea what we have said with prior calls. Everything, from their service to the people they send out, has been awful. The service people are unskilled and continue to make and break appointments. While the very last service that we had was satisfactory, virtually, every other service that we've had has been absolutely awful and some of the worst service we've had as adults in our many decades of life. I could go over each specific failure, but I don't wanna do that. Because our experience has been so consistently bad, it would not surprise me if others had a similar experience. I'm sure it's not just us, and we are actively looking for another company.

It was an easy process with American Home Shield. I put the request through the computer and the contractor called me a few hours later. We planned for the time the next day and they came and did what they needed to do. I'm promoting American Home Shield all the time. I've had it for 10 years and I've never had any issues with my appliances. I had an issue with them at one point because they raised the price from $25 to $49 and I didn't notice it because I've been with them for so many years. Three months after that, I was looking at my statement and was wondering what happened. I called them and complained, and they fixed the problem right away. They put me back on what I was paying, and they even gave me three months free to cover the three months that they already had charged me for. That's why I'm very happy with them.
Dear Jorge,
