Very, very slow response rate. Tomorrow it will be 1 week since we called and they are now saying another 3-5 business days for the parts to be shipped before they can schedule the repair. I have called multiple times and been on hold for cumulative hours. I have paid them thousands of dollars since we bought the home 3 years ago and every repair has been a wrestling match fraught with delays, red-tape, and runaround. So frustrating.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Do not waste your time or money with this company. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS COVERED. You pay the $75 deductible and they send companies out just to tell you it's not covered. Companies don't want to work for them because they cap the calls at $160 so if the repair is larger than that they just tell you it's not covered. When you call into customer support they tell you the same thing. What a ripoff, so disappointing. You're purchasing a new home and feel this is a great benefit when in all reality it's just another $500-$800 added to your closing cost for ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT. Save your money

This company has to be the worst in customer service next to AT&T. I have now been waiting on the phone for 23.12 minutes after speaking with someone in a department I could get a live person to answer, all because I have been charged a $75.00 service fee I did not initiate and was being transferring me to the contract department. Good Luck! They are notoriously understaffed as evidenced by their consistently terrible reviews. If you have nothing better to do than sit on the phone for 45 minutes, which is the average wait time, go for it.
Even the website fails and malfunctions when trying to do a "live chat" all to resolve your needs and avoid the phone wait. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this company. As soon as I can get a live person to answer and explain why I have been charged this fee I am terminating my contract after 12 years and numerous HORRIBLE experiences with them. It's not their contractors that perform the service, it's the Corporate way of not addressing their obviously overwhelming demands for service. It's their DELAY, DENY, and DECEPTION that is truly maddening.
Hello, Maria. We apologize that you had these payment concerns. It appears as though we did not bill you at the time of the service as we should have. The service fee was due per a work order from September of 2017. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to further discuss your concerns.

Twelve days ago my AC compressor went out in my House in Houston. We contacted American Home Shield immediately and had one of their technicians come out the following day. It then took them 11 days to process my repairs, order the part, and then schedule the service technician to come back out to my house to install the new compressor. But wait, the best part, American Home Shield ordered the wrong part and so now I am waiting on them to figure out what to do next. Being that it's July, my house is completely unlivable without AC. I have been displaced from house for almost two weeks now and I still don't know when I will have my AC fixed. Furthermore, their customer service is terrible and takes at least 45 minutes to get a hold of anyone to speak with. If you are in the market for a home warranty provider, look elsewhere, this company is terrible.

We have a bunch of rental properties and we have American Home Shield on all of them. We’ve used the warranty quite a bit and I have normally submitted my claims online. The only time I call is whenever I have a repeat call out which I had to do for an AC claim. American Home Shield sent Total Air Care and they let our renter, with a newborn baby, stay a month without air conditioning. That contractor had been called out to one of my places before and they did well. On the second one, they had to repeat their visit but on this third one, they misdiagnosed the issue completely. We've since asked that they not be allowed to come anymore. There were waiting a month to order a compressor and a bunch of things that we didn’t need and never got. We ended up having to call and pay for a different company out, and it turned out that the wires were loose and the unit just needed a cleaning.
Also, when my sister called AHS to see if we could have somebody else sent out, they told her that they couldn’t send anybody else out unless we were suing them. But I called a couple of days later and found out that was not true. We can request to have somebody called back out or a different company called out. I was also told that my air conditioner wasn't working because it flooded three years ago but it has been working ever since. But AHS has been pretty helpful with everything else. I’ve even recommended them to a friend.

The back of our toilet where it was hooked up was leaking, so my wife went on the computer and put in a claim with American Home Shield and then someone had contacted us and said somebody was gonna come out. They gave me the name of the contractor who was coming, so I knew who was coming. The contractor took care of everything. I showed him exactly where it was leaking, he looked at it and he got some parts and fixed it. And I’ve had no problem since. Also, he explained to me everything he was doing as I was sitting there and watching him. Overall, American Home Shield has been really helpful. So far, we’ve had three different problems and they’ve come out and took care of us.

I submitted a claim for a plumbing issue to American Home Shield. The guy from their contractor, Able Mechanical, showed up on time. He did the service which was a clean repair then told us that maybe something else could occur in some other area but those weren't on his ticket. He said that those problems were not a danger to us yet but they were lurking out there. More recently, I've made an appointment and we're waiting for Able Mechanical to come out again and do our plumbing and disposal unit. Overall, they have been doing a good job.

I had an issue with my AC and American Home Shield sent a technician to take care of it. I've had these people before and the service was excellent. Everything I've ever done with AHS has been spot on. I've never had a complaint. They've put two air conditioning in. I've also had washers, dryers and dishwashers fixed. If you got a problem they're there.
The contractors are prompt. They call and give you a time if they're gonna come within a couple of hours. They call 30 minutes prior. They are always right on time. If they said they'll be there in 30 minutes, you can set your watch. They don't give a time frame like between 8:00 and 4:00 and something like that. It's a two hour window, which is about as high as you're gonna get. If they run into a problem they'll call you and say, "Hey, we're gonna be a little bit late." They're extremely professional.
We're at 95 degrees and we are basking but as long as the house is cool, everything is great. I've been with AHS for 12 years and I wouldn't be with them this long if they haven't given the service that they said they would and their service has always been excellent. They've been extremely responsive. Immediately they sent me a text or an email that said they got this claim that has been submitted and they tell you who the people are that are coming and a phone number of that person. I've had several different service providers come out on different issues and they've always been fine. AHS is extremely well run. I have recommended them to a couple people. A couple of people have taken them.
A lot of times when you had these home or car warranties the first thing they start to do is look at the loopholes to get out of it. AHS doesn't. They know if there is something you haven't done to maintain your system like with the air conditioner. If somebody didn't and they use the system or abuse the system of American Home Shield then they would not honor the claim. We've had some major problems and the contractors called American Home Shield to get permission to do the replacement or repair. If it's major right then and there they will do it. There's no wait.

I called American Home Shield as my air conditioner needed Freon in it and then the rep who I spoke to took my information and sent a technician out. He was young and very professional. I asked him if it his summer job and he said it was his regular job. He couldn't do the repair the same day because the AC unit had frozen and it took 24 hours to unfreeze. And so he came back the next day and installed the Freon. They got the job done in a reasonable amount of time.

We have an issue with leaking in our outside air conditioning, so we had an air conditioner guy out to come and fix it. However, it wasn't fixed. Then we had another air conditioner guy out and he said we needed a plumber. The plumber came and said it was fixed, but it was not, and said we needed an air conditioning guy. We spent $250 and the problem is still there. We've been doing this for about four months now. It's been such a pain that I haven't bothered calling American Home Shield back.
I tried to submit the claim online and we let them know that that contractor didn't fix the problem. If I try to go online, it automatically signs me up for that same contractor to come back and I ended up waiting on hold for 30 minutes calling them to get them to change the contractor. My husband and I have considered dropping the plan completely, but we bought an older home and we risk needing to replace a $12,000 air conditioning. It's something that we've been debating whether it's worth to continue with their service or not.
Some of the contractors sent out by AHS are great, however, they're not fixing the problem. One of them was not good and he didn't seem very qualified. He was only here for a couple of minutes. But the others that we've had have been really good. Their communication with assistance is good too. The repair is a small problem that's going to be a large problem because the back of the line of our air conditioning is flowing steadily off of our roof on to the ground, so that's going to cost some water damage on the roof and inside of our house. We're in Texas and it's hot. The condensation from the air conditioning normally drips some anyway, but it shouldn't be using the back of the line. But when we had a few things taken care of for our pool, AHS did a good job.

My dishwasher had yucky water at the bottom so I submitted a claim to AHS. It was super easy. The form was all online and that's how I like it. The contractor who came out was great and I really liked him a lot. The dishwasher has been perfect since the repair and it’s working fine. I have really liked every contractor I’ve used with AHS and I wanted to keep them. However, the first time I tried to get somebody to work on my air conditioner, I never heard from the contractor at all. We had a hard time finding somebody local and it seemed like there weren't a lot of workers where I live. And it would be nice to have more contractors available in our area. But then I was referred to a new person who was great and I loved him. I'm completely satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield.

It was super easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. I filed one online for my air conditioning unit on the first floor. They got me in touch with one of their approved AC people, B&B HVAC. It's locally owned and a small operation with about two employees. Since I work part time, they were able to easily schedule the time frame to come out, but it took them a couple of days to get to my house which I understood. They've been very friendly and good to work with. Everything was outside and the tech didn't even need to be in my house, so that was pretty easy. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

This is our first go at homeowning so the fact that we didn’t have air conditioning and it was back to normal since the repair is fantastic.

I'm retired and I love sitting out by the lake, so I can just call American Home Shield to submit claims. I give them my account number and they'd take care of my issue. I have been pleased with their level of professionalism and if things proceed as they are going so far, I will renew my contract. It takes so much stress off of me because I live in Louisiana and I can't find a cheaper company.
You think you'll find professional people off of Home Advisor and some other website, but you will learn if they get to your house. I paid a guy to come to my house and he looked at my washer and told me he couldn't fix it. He didn't go into it and he can't fix it, but he charged me $90. Another repair person came out about the washer. He wouldn't even go in there and touch it and he said he can't fix it. That has been my problem. They say they can do this and they can do that. On the website with these different organizations such as Home Advisor and Thumbtack.com, they're not professionals at all. I can't find anybody who says they can do what they do or are supposed to do, so I went to American Home Shield.
Last month, Dial One came out for the ice maker on my refrigerator and the tech was very professional. He came in and told me it was broken and he will order another. They called me the following week and said the part was in. He came out and put it in. The contractors were out yesterday afternoon doing some electrical work and one of the problems could not be taken care of because the contractor said it was an appliance call, not electrical. I have a light under my range. One will come on and one will not and he said I had to contact appliance for that.
I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. The two service calls I've had took a world of stress off me because I don't have to try to find somebody. We can't find anybody. The guy who came for the washer and dryer told me that the drum was gone and that it would be best to get another washer, which I could understand, but he told me to not go with Samsung or LG. I have a Consumer Reports Buying Guide and those were the two they recommended, so I wasn't paying any attention to what he was saying.

I called American Home Shield a day before yesterday to file a claim on the refrigerator and the guy who came was very professional. He diagnosed what the problem was and it will take a couple more days and it will be fixed. I also filed a claim online a month ago when the air conditioner wasn’t cooling. The site didn’t let me make any comments such as “Call me at this time,” or "This is the gate code," or "There's a dog out there,” but it was very user-friendly. Before the contractor came, I asked somebody else to come in and I was told that we needed to change the compressor which was pricey. And when the one sent by AHS came, he said it wasn’t the issue and it took about ten minutes and it was all done. Since then, the AC has been working great. He was good and it was awesome dealing with him. People should go for AHS.

We had a refrigerator that was covered under American Home Shield. The inside of the freezer frosted up and the refrigerator side got too warm. I submitted the claim through the website and if I didn’t hear or see anything, I would call back and I'd wait. However, if you call in, you tend to wait on the phone for a long time. But their reps were pretty good and they responded by email. You have their full attention when they're there. AHS sent somebody out that replaced some parts and two weeks later, the refrigerator stopped again. We called back and this time, they sent a different contractor. It was Sears and they replaced some more parts. Three weeks later, we had it again.
This went on about four times and they kept replacing parts until we finally got to the point where we had done this on and off for several months. It seemed every time we went shopping, the refrigerator would go bad again. It began to get a little frustrating when it would happen every three weeks and it was different parts until we basically went through all the parts you can change, and it was still failing. It got to the point where the technician came out and said that the refrigerator needs to be replaced. That’s what AHS did and it went well at that point. They sent us a check within the two-week timeframe like they said they would. We agreed and we went out and purchased a refrigerator. We had it delivered and hooked up, everything is copacetic and it's working. I just have to send the one-year warranty back to them to complete the process and we should be good to go.
The contractors were all excellent. They were prompt and courteous, and they seemed to know what they were doing. The one thing we tended to go through was that they would come out and diagnose it and then they would order parts, and then it would be another week to 10 days before the new parts would come back. I wish there was some way, knowing it's a refrigerator for example, that they would have some parts on the truck. The warranty is a very good thing to have to cover all of your appliances and your equipment in your house, especially if you just buy a house and you don’t know how long these things will last. Sure enough, something will go bad. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The toilet wasn’t flushing properly and I thought there was float valve issue. Initially, when I submitted the claim, I wanted to go with a company I've used before, but AHS sent somebody else. The vendor said they can only come during morning hours. I told them that 95% of people work during those hours so I can't be there. They said either I take it or leave it, which was disappointing. I said okay and called AHS. I was able to get the company I wanted, which was Inner City Plumbing. The technician was really friendly, professional, courteous and was quick. He was in and out of there in 30 minutes. The toilet is a little bit older but so far so good since the repair. I couldn’t ask for a better experience.
I've been with AHS for roughly 7 years and for the most part, they have been good. The one I had before was really good too, but they retired and went out of business. Generally, AHS has a 24 to 36-hour turnaround time in getting someone out. But if they are really busy then it might take 72 hours. In the future, I would like to cut the middleman out and go directly to the third party because I don’t know how it works with AHS. Sometimes they give you the worst possible vendor at first, and when you make a complaint about who you want, things happen that way. Issues with contractors are few and far between. About three years ago, an air conditioning tech was trying to sell me a bunch of stuff I don’t need. I called AHS and said that the tech was corrupt. But 85% of the time, I've had good experiences.

I had an issue with my air conditioning unit. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I preferred to do it by phone because I can get my order taken care of quicker and they understand me and I could get it done. The contractor was Fast Response. They came out and they took care of the problem. They were nice, sweet and they tried to make sure I’m comfortable. But I had to call a second time because the AC was doing the same thing. When it got real hot, the thermostat went all the way back up. Fast Response came back out Tuesday. They put a compressor in and they came back out and cleaned it. But when it gets up to 90, the thermostat goes right back up to 80. It’s just running. The unit is old and they tried to work with it. We had a problem with the washer. The machine would take the water but when it came to emptying the washer, the water drained out of the pipes outside of the machine and it didn’t go into the sewer. So I called American Home Shield and I was very happy with their response. It was a Friday and I told them we had kids so we couldn't have gone until Monday without the washer. They immediately found a company and the contractor came over the same day. They were very professional. Even though they didn’t promise me that they would take care of it that day when I called, they did it and the washer has been perfect since the repair. I'm a realtor and I've got three homes so I always try the professionals at my homes to see how they respond and then I give referrals to my clients. American Home Shield is the only one in this industry right now that have kept their integrity. They do what they need to do while all of the others are horrible.

The air conditioner wasn’t working at all. The fan itself wasn’t working on the outside unit, so I wasn’t getting any cool air at all. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield on the phone and the interaction I had with the claims representative was good. They told me who would be contacting me and they gave me that number. The company that repaired it contacted me personally to say when they would be coming in approximate time. They came around 15 minutes after the time they said they would be there.
The interaction I had with the contractor was also good. I really had no clue as to what was going on and we found out it was just a minor repair. I was even more excited about that and the fact that the gentleman explained everything to me in layman’s term, so I knew exactly what was going on. It was very hot while I was waiting for the repair to be done, but it’s perfect now.
I recommended some friends to American Home Shield and they took advantage of it. They were very pleased with whatever problem they had in their homes. If I knew somebody needed a home warranty company, I would recommend American Home Shield. I’m a senior citizen so having a warranty on our property is very good. I only have a certain amount of money and hopefully, if anything has to be repaired or replaced, it would be done through them because I don’t have any extra money for a full replacement of something for my own.

I filed a garbage disposal that wasn’t working and a water heater that wouldn't stay lit as one claim to American Home Shield. The first contractor lit the pilot light which I've been lighting for a week and replaced the garbage disposal and was done real quick. I asked him if he fixed the pilot light and he said he lit it. I told him that was not the problem. The problem was it wouldn't stay lit. He went out and checked it and of course, it was already out. He said there was a bit of rust on the outside so they'd just replace it. I said okay but he said they'd charge me to do that. So, it was gonna be $545 to cut some PVC pipes and replace them.
The second plumber was the guy that came to install the water heater. He went and looked at it and he said, "Hey, why are you replacing this?" I said, "I don't know. The guy said there was some rust on it and that it needed to be replaced." He said, "I can't replace this water heater. It's still working and there are no leaks. American Home Shield won't replace it." He was great and we kept the cost. This is the second time I've had this company out and they've given me the runaround. When I first bought the house, I had them come out and see why my shower was leaking. The guy didn’t even look at it. I paid $75 for the guy to come out, peek his head in and say, "Just ** the shower."
I've had AHS for four years now so I can't be too dissatisfied with them because I would have left. But there were a few things that I had to replace out of my pocket because they were not covered. My experience with AHS wasn’t bad. I just don’t agree with some of the stuff they try to charge me with. To me, when you have to replace something, everything that goes in with it is part of the cost.

A coupling on my pipe under my driveway became loose and caused all kinds of damages, and American Home Shield denied the claim that we filed for it. They said they were not responsible for that, and that there has to be some cause such as an earthquake or if a large truck ran over that area and caused damages. We had to get a plumber and then a mason to come out and repair the cement damage, and it wasn't an easy thing for us to do because we had to make so many personal calls and then ended up paying all the people who came out to fix the damage. We just got a bill for the cement people who came out, and they charged us $800 to repair the cement around where the coupling broke. And there will be more people who will charge us more for whatever damage that has been done.
We've had a policy with American Home Shield for a long time and we've had some other claims with them where they've done a good job in coming out promptly, allowing the repairs to be made, and paying the vendor who came out to do it. So, there are some good things and some things that I disagree with. But that's the nature with insurance. I'm dissatisfied that AHS didn't take the responsibility of handling the broken coupling. They said it was normal wear and tear which could have been, but it also could've been some earthquake in the area or some ground settling that took place naturally. I would love to have had the coupling fixed.
I also talked to the ranch manager who handles most of the claims, and she said it's very difficult sometimes to call in, and you have to wait for a long time before you get somebody to answer the phone. And that is something that she can get a little bit perturbed about, but it's just a matter of how many people AHS has on the phone at any given time that respond to that.

We had three different electrical issues that I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. One was when a part of the doorbell wasn’t working on one side of the house and on the other side too. We also had one of our garage door openers intermittently working. And something was wrong with the track that sometimes it goes up and sometimes it wouldn’t. We couldn’t put it up at all. The very first claim I ever did was over the phone. But I did these claims online and navigating through their website was simple. However, the contractor took a couple weeks to come. And one of the longest ones that we had was with our appliances and the contractor never showed up. AHS closed out the claim but they didn’t know that the contractor did not show up. So, they ended up reassigning the claim to a different contractor.
We’ve had several different contractors who came and most of them have been pretty pleasant. We only had one plumbing guy that was really bad, rude and just degrading my wife. I called the company and complained to the manager. It has been resolved and we handled that with the contractor themselves. That aside, it’s nice to have the coverage but you have to read the fine print. So far, everything’s doing fine but we still have a couple of things that are waiting to be addressed because of the technicality.

I submitted an AC claim online with AHS and their website was perfect. The contractor came within 24 hours and found out that it was with the connection with the wires that made the AC stop to work. The guy changed the wire and the AC worked for half a day and then the system went off. There were four connections and they would change one, but the other one would disconnect, and the problem kept on happening repeatedly and we couldn't tell why. They came Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but then they couldn’t come on the weekend and this is a hot summer. I told them that if they took care of the AC properly in the beginning, they wouldn't have to fix it until Monday. So, they should send someone out on Saturday, even if they had to take overtime because it was their fault. But I had to wait until Monday which I wasn’t happy about.
On the other hand, the guy who came out was very helpful and took care of the problem. He simply changed the whole power box and it seems to work now. So, it must have been the box and not the wires because the wires kept on snapping at different times. I had also spoken to Donna from AHS and she replied on time. I just bought the place, so the warranty has been useful so far and I’m perfectly happy with AHS.

I had a leaky sink in the bathroom and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. Navigating through their website was very easy. The plumber came the next day to fix the sink. He was very efficient and he did a good job and everything has been good since the repair. Having the warranty is very valuable. We’ve used it three times in four months so it saved us a lot. We just moved in the place so there were little things like outlets that wouldn't work and then we had the leaky sink. We’ve had very good service from American Home Shield and I’d highly recommend them.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years in California and they were really good. I just moved here in South Carolina and have had them here since April. We submit claims over the phone and have had excellent experience with them. However, speaking to them has been a bit of a hassle. Sometimes, I get their automated system, but it’s not always giving me the options that I want. It’s a little too general. So, I’ll hang on and push whatever buttons I have to, and I’ll hang on for sometimes a long period of time to speak with a real person. When I was in California, the wait time was around 10 minutes but it hasn’t been bad since I’ve moved here.
AHS has more clout with their subcontractors than the average person would. Usually, I have to wait two weeks to get somebody out. But they get someone out right away which is really a quick response. And for the extended period of time, I’ve always found their subcontractors to be great. AHS sent out a guy recently to repair our garage door opener that stopped working, and he did a great job. He came out on time and he called about half an hour before. He was really thorough and he checked everything and replaced the parts that weren’t working. He was absolutely excellent.

Our AC wasn't cooling. I then submitted a claim with American Home Shield and doing that was an uncomfortable process. You have to call about something and you have to sit there and wait for the person and talk to the person. It was just not fun. But the guy from Affordable Comfort who came was well spoken, knew what he was talking about, and gave us some helpful tips. Since the service, the unit seems to be working well. American Home Shield is a good thing to have.

American Home Shield’s service has been good over the 15 years I’ve been with them. One time, I submitted a claim for the valve that releases the water to go out to the tank. I called and they told me they’ll send somebody out. Mr. Rooter came out and the valve was dead so they put in a new one. After about three days, it stuck and the contractor came back. Then after another four days, it stuck again. After they put in a new one, the water wouldn't come up. So, the next time it was flushed it wouldn't flush because the water wouldn't fill up in the tank.
When I called back AHS for the second repair, they said there was no charge because they didn’t get the repair straight. We called back the third time and there was no charge again. The contractor came out on the first of the month, the middle of the month, and then at the end of the month, it was three times in June and it has come with the same thing. But the contractor that American Home Shield sent out talked to me through it the whole time and they were very courteous.

When we purchased our house, the seller provided American Home Shield. We liked the service the first year, decided to continue it and we've been with them for 3 years. Recently, I went online to file a claim for a ceiling fan and a couple of light switches that were tripping over again. Within 10 minutes, I received a text message about the company who was going to fix that, and that company scheduled the appointment for the next day, which was great. The contractor gave us a window to come and he called 30-40 minutes before. He also sent me a text so that I could track how far he was, so that was helpful. The professionalism and the easy communication really matters. So, I was satisfied with the service. I will recommend people to have AHS.

When my fridge was leaking, I called American Home Shield and they opened a claim. However the contractor they referred me to said they didn’t have any appointment until after 10 days from the day I called. I called AHS about it and they referred me to another contractor. Their technician showed up immediately. I told him briefly what was going on with the fridge and he went straight to the point. He told me that it was not a big leak and he would take a couple of hours to fix it. But it took him less than that to fix it and it's working so far.
However, I had a bad experience with AHS at the beginning. My realtor recommended buying an insurance from American Home Shield for the appliances when I purchased the house. A few months after, the washer was broke and it was making a noise. I called AHS and paid $75 for it. However, the claim was declined and I found it out when I call AHS to find out what was going on. According to the guy who did the investigation, he checked the washer. It was overloaded and it was not gonna be covered under the warranty. I emailed my realtor and she got it done. I was contacted by one of AHS' reps and they apologized to me. They sent another contractor that checked my washer. I bought a new one and they paid me for it and even reimbursed me the deductible. I was happy with their service and I renewed my contract with them. American Home Shield made things right and I am satisfied.

One of our vents had water dripping from it a little every now and then, so I put a service request through my American Home Shield account online. It was easy navigating through the website. An electrician took around two days to get back to me and when he came in, I told him what the problem was. Then he went and looked at a couple of things. He went to my attic as well to look up there and to get the overview of the whole system. And then, he told me he'd go out to check the air conditioner outside.
He also told me about the refrigerant stuff he had to put in and he even spoke of tips and pointers to think of the next couple of years as far as getting a brand-new air conditioner, since they're gonna charge me $75 a hit every single time. Unbeknownst to myself, the consumer gets the EPA with that particular refrigerant RF221 at the list of "Don't use anymore" and I gotta pay out of my pocket quite a bit to get that recharged. He said to think about it in the near future. The unit is still with cold air and it's great. I have my issues with how the plan works, but what AHS had in place as far as reaching out to somebody for the unit to get fixed is good. However, I've had some problems in the past with getting people to come out for other things.
When I first bought the home, it was the first time I've ever had a home warranty plan for a home that I have purchased. I've bought out homes before and the one I had in Nebraska was two years older than this one and that house was built in '78. For the most part, most of the things in the house were solid, but there were some things that my husband and I discovered after the fact that probably weren't done properly, so we had to call and get people to fix it with money out of our pocket. I moved here and the people selling the home were throwing in the home warranty thing, which I thought was a little unusual and they had something to hide kind of thing. And it turns out there's some shady thing.
But when I got American Home Shield, I've been really disappointed since the beginning. There's always a catch with something. When I have a claim that says that it should be covered under the payment plan, but in the fine print, I find out that it's not covered, so the frustrating part is how they limit things in the plan itself.
I really needed an electrician to come out to repair something or at least look at it and tell me what was going on with it. As a matter of fact, I got tired of waiting and I canceled one company. It took them too long to get back to me. AHS got someone else. The guy who came was awesome, but as it turned out, the issue was just a circuit breaker that was damaged. But still, it could have been a major problem had he not come in to fix it. However, that circuit breaker part was not covered in my plan at all. I'm fortunate that it wasn't anything crazy where it was just ways I had to call and ask to have them define what these words mean in the plan, so I knew what to expect. So, I asked them to define what is hardwiring. To me, hardwiring includes the panel itself and everything that goes out from it. It could be an outlet or whatever it is and that's how I consider it. But that's not what American Home Shield considers that part.
I was lucky with an extension as it turned out to repair. But those little things with every incident, I don't call on American Home Shield all the time, just when I really need somebody to come out and check out things. My husband passed away last year, so I kept relying on handy home men to fix things for me. For me, as a consumer, I still think that some business entities need be better with the consumer, but they're not. I pay 500 bucks a year for it. But on top of that, every single time I have to call somebody, that's another 75 bucks I gotta fork out of my pocket. And when that person gets out to my house to check what they gotta check out to get the chance again, it may cost nothing or it may cost a lot. That's where money enters. I wonder, "Why do I have a home warranty, then?"

At random times, I would have light bulbs popping throughout my house even though we have replaced them a month or two ago. Then I saw that I was covered by American Home Shield for electrical. I submit claims with AHS online. I thought I would contact and see what I can get as far as knowledge as part of what was happening or if there was an actual issue in the home. The first individual who was scheduled to come out accepted the job. I received a text message from AHS saying that I'll be contacted within the next 24 business hours. Three and a half days went by and I hadn’t received any phone call from anybody.
So I went online to my profile there with AHS and it showed that the contractor requested that I contact him. So I called and a week and a half went by, several voicemails were left, I never received a callback. I finally ended up getting a hold of the individual who stated he never received any of my information and he wouldn't be able to get out to me for another two weeks. So I contacted AHS again and tried to figure out what the issue was. They sent another company that they dealt with from my area to come and see the home. That company came out and I was a little put-off as they didn’t check anything. As soon as the contractor walked in my door, he said, "Oh, it's because you're receiving too many volts. You gotta contact the power company."
He and his partner were getting ready to leave and that was all that they did. I asked him how could he know that without checking anything. Then he said that it is because he has done this for 18 years now so he knows. He proceeded to walk out the door and I told him that he could have told me that over the phone. I asked why I was gonna be charged $75 for him just to walk through my threshold. Then he took his volt meter and put the prongs inside an electrical outlet of mine and told me that I was receiving 127 volts right now. He also said that it would spike to 132 volts and that regular light bulbs can’t take that. He and his partner turned around and walked away. As they were walking away, they suggested I buy LED volts for my house and that was the end of it.
I ended up calling the power company and they told me that there's no regulation that they can put. There are new transformers up but as far as what my house is allowing in, there's no meter as far as a regulator that they can do. They said they would come out but whether or not that they did come, I wouldn't know, since I work odd hours so no one would be home early afternoon till about nine o'clock at night.
Despite that, I'm very impressed with AHS. We had a home warranty in our previous home in another state and I had a bad taste in my mouth with home warranties. When we purchased this home, I was told it was required for the first year to have a home warranty company. So my wife and I started looking online. We found AHS and they have changed my mind and my opinion on home warranties. I've had a fantastic experience with them.

West Michigan Air Duct told American Home Shield that I wanted to cash out on my furnace and I never stated that. It's pretty good with American Home Shield but sometimes it takes a while to get an appointment. And not everybody at American Home Shield knows what the contracts are. I got three different opinions every time I called for a claim and that was frustrating. I had to wait for days. The water heater was leaking over the weekend and I thought that was an emergency but they didn't take care of it until the following week. I had to keep calling. I would recommend that anybody answering the phone to really know what’s on the contract and how to read it.
Also, they’ll say they cover something and they don’t. It says if the plumbing is not done right, they would fix it. But they won't fix everything. They don't cover the bladder that the water heater needs and they don't cover the piping to the water heater whenever you change that with different sizes. I had to pay for stuff that I thought would be covered. If they have to replace something, they can't replace just the one item. Everything is connected and it didn't make sense to me that they wouldn't cover something I had to have in order to put the hot water heater in. Also, I needed a vent and they wouldn’t fix that, so I had to pay for that. I’ve had three or four different plumbers here for different things since I got the home. I wish there were more details on what’s covered when you go to buy it. Other than that, I’m glad I have them because I’ve used them quite a bit.

American Home Shield's website was pretty easy to use when I submitted my claim for my air conditioner. It was leaking in the basement where the whole unit is, not the compressor fan thing but the other part of it and it wasn’t cooling as much. The contractor who came out didn’t get to our house until about 8 o’clock at night which was not a bad thing as I didn’t get home until about that time. My husband stays at home but it was also nice that I could be there for it too.
The contractor was very polite and he made sure to let us know what was going on. We were about two pounds short of Freon which wouldn’t be covered under American Home Shield. He would be willing to add it to what our bill was with them, which was the $75 which we paid in advance and he did that. So, that was nice, as he just charged us the cost of the Freon. Now, the air conditioning is cooling better but we’ve also had less humidity, so it could be combination of things. But the leak is better.
I've had pretty decent experiences with American Home Shield and I would recommend that they put the water heater, when it goes out, on the list of emergency situations. While I understand that not being able to take a shower is not necessarily life-threatening, but when you're dealing with it for a week, it’s more than just an inconvenience. I had service on the same water heater two times in less than six months. Since it was two days after the three-month guarantee, American Home Shield didn’t charge us for the second service which was great. It was a smart decision to have American Home Shield and I’ve recommended them to my sister and to a friend who both owns a house and to anybody who tells me they are buying a house.

Still, they came in and did the simple repair.
Another claim I had was for a gas leak. I called American Home Shield and the guy I talked to said that it was not covered, but they could send somebody out to look at it. So, he scheduled something, but the pool company never came back. I talked to the guy again and he said that the gas line that was under the ground comes back up with the pool heater and it leaks at both ends. I said that it appears that it's not covered. But then the rep said that if it’s exclusive to the pool equipment, it’s absolutely covered and they would send somebody out to get the thing underway.
The technician came out, 75 bucks got paid and took some pictures, then he walked out the door. They called American Home Shield and said that the claim is denied. The particular pool contractor knew that it wasn’t covered and he had already made the determination before he got there. He didn’t even examine where he took the picture. So, he got 75 bucks for doing virtually nothing. The consumers don’t have a choice of which contractor to pick, but it is still on us, the consumer, to evaluate and deal with them. Still, I was very pleased with American Home Shield and they couldn't have done any better in that situation. They responded quickly and the guy I talked to was professional too. This is the third time I’m gonna have somebody come out and look at my AC because the temperature’s set at 70˚ and it is 78˚ in here. The first contractor AHS sent was kind of okay. He charged me for the Freon but it makes me mad that he didn’t bother to fix the leak in the first place. Then he told me that having American Home Shield or any type of home warranty wouldn’t really matter because if I have to get a replacement by the HVAC, they said that they would not replace it. Then I was like, “Oh, what’s the point of having it? Ain’t that why people get it?”
On the other hand, the next guy that came out was good. The motor thing had to be replaced and the technician said that I needed a temperature board. But when he came back, he said, “Oh no, you don’t need it because the temperature is right.” Last week it started up again and the AC has been that way all week where it’s not cooling and it’s 80˚. I called the people that did the service and they told me I had to call American Home Shield and do a recall so that I would not get charged another service fee.
Communicating with AHS has been pretty good, other than the fact that I keep having these technicians having to come out here. Last year I had to pay for Freon myself. It was leaking Freon and the guy didn’t fix it. Then when I got American Home Shield, they fixed the leak of the Freon, but then the motor went out and now I’m still having issues. AHS is pretty quick to respond to my issue, except for today. Normally, when I made a request, I get a phone call within an hour. Now they’re telling me it’s gonna be 24 hours. When those parts got there, the contractor installed them but again, that didn’t fix the microwave.
So I called back and the contractor came back out there again, checked some more stuff and ordered some more parts. Another week went by and those parts came in. The contractor put them in and fixed the oven that time. It’s working now but all together, those parts were $1,000. AHS could’ve bought about three new ovens for the price they spent. Plus I had to do without the microwave for an extended two weeks. The people had to come out three times and it wasn’t the same person each time. That experience wasn’t too good but my experience with the hot water tank was even worse.
Our water tank is out in the garage and it started leaking. When they do that, you have to replace them. So I called AHS to set up an appointment and it was a week before the contractor could come out but the tank wasn’t leaking bad enough. We just didn’t have hot water. When the contractor came out and looked at the tank, all of a sudden, our water heater needed all this other stuff to be redone, including plumbing and electrical. The contractor wanted to charge at least 700 dollars other than what AHS was gonna pay.
So I called a plumber that I knew and asked him about it. He came down, looked at it and said that everything was to code. The person that AHS chose to send out was just trying to gather money for nothing. I wouldn’t use him anymore and he left without fixing the it because he had to order the parts. In comparison, the other guy didn’t need anything to do the work and he did it without charging 700 dollars. I called AHS and had them do one of those deals where they pay me the money they would’ve paid that vendor and then I pay the person I had to use.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for a little less than a year and those were the only times we've had to use the warranty. Filing claims over the phone is not that hard but a lot of times, there’s a long wait of 30 minutes to an hour. AHS also needs to screen their contractors better or maybe they don’t have enough because it takes a long time to schedule an appointment sometimes. Still, the warranty is good and it’s worth what I got it for. That was how I got my hot water heater and my microwave fixed. I would still recommend American Home Shield. The warranty is a good thing for the average homeowner who doesn’t know how to fix stuff or who to call. It’s good to have somebody that you know you can depend on to come in and fix stuff when something comes us.

My air conditioning system is cooling non-stop. The first time a company came out they cleaned the coil. On the third time someone came out, the contractor went up into the air ducts to repair some of the ducts. I've told American Home Shield to get somebody that specializes in going up there but they just sent the same guys out again. It’s not a pleasant job to go up into the attic. The guy was probably just looking for something else to fix instead of going up there. With every appointment, they're getting a little closer to fixing the unit but it is still not fixed. It is still running non-stop and my electric bill is gonna be through the roof.

We had a toilet that had a crack in it and needed to be replaced. American Home Shield sent Select Plumbing and I hope they never come to my house again. They called one day and said they were on the way and didn't show up. And when they came the contractor said, "Well, I'll get the toilet and I'll come back tomorrow and put it in." So he turned the water off at the toilet and we were down to just one toilet.
A couple of days went by and we didn't see or hear from him. He never called. It started on a Tuesday and finally I called him Friday evening and he said, "Well they were supposed to come out and replace it." I said, "But nobody showed up." He said, "I'll find out what's going on, and if they don't come tomorrow, I will do it myself." He didn't. Nobody did. So my husband called and he said, "Yeah, I'll be out there in a little while." And the contractor finally came out and replaced it.
We didn't have to sign any papers. He came in and never apologized. He hardly said six words to us the whole time. He finally got it replaced and the toilet's fine. We like American Home Shield. They've been really good with us. That's the first time we've really had an issue with anybody they've sent. I've been with AHS for 4 years and I usually file my claim online. It's really quick and we've had no problems. We've had our air conditioning replaced and our water heater. They sent somebody out to look at it. So we've been pleased that way. We have recommended AHS to people.

I had two issues that I would like to have had addressed with AHS but on their website, it only gave me an opportunity to address one. It looked like I was gonna have to make another appointment for a separate service call for another $150 as opposed to the ability to send somebody over that could take a look at both of these issues at the same time as long as they were here. But if I had multiple issues and if I talked to someone on the phone, I could say I have an issue with these two items, and if they could send someone over to look at those. But the contractor that came out was pleasant. We only had one repair done and so far, the performance has been satisfactory.

Also, I had submitted the claim for repair online and navigating through the website was good and easy.

My realtor suggested getting the home warranty, and I have been with American Home shield for eight years now. When our AC was not blowing cold air, I filed a claim online and it was fast and easy. The contractor from Absolute Mechanical took about 20 minutes to fix it. But, my only problem was we had to wait almost a week for him to get here. My mother is on hospice and she is here, and I was trying to keep her cool. It was a bad week. He was swamped though, and he said he could not get here any faster, so we just had to wait. Every time I have had anybody come out they’ve fixed what needed to be fixed. Now my oven does not work, so I’m gonna have to get on that pretty soon. It has been a really good thing to have. I usually submit my claims to AHS by phone because it's easier and I don't have to wait very long. Also, the online part is really not as convenient as they think it is. So far, I had good interactions with the contractors they sent out. They were quick and honest, too. But if there is a product that has to be constantly fixed, they should consider helping the homeowner and give them a new one. I bought a new home. I got American Home Shield and I've been with them for about three months now. Recently, I had an AC and a pool issue. The AC issue was resolved quicker at the onset. I called AHS and we scheduled a tech. I paid my service fee, the tech came out, fixed the AC and that was that. However, it was very difficult to get in touch with anybody for the pool issue. The pool was turning green because of salt. I had to leave the pump running 24 hours to 10 days so that there would be movement and it wouldn’t get greener. I ended up going to the online system which was my first time to schedule the service and then everything worked out.
I got a text message from the local tech saying that they were gonna call me. There was also a phone number so I followed up directly with them. The local tech came in and looked at what happened. A cell was burnt out so they ordered the part which took about 10 days to get. When we got the part, the tech came back, put the part in and everything was fixed.
Overall, American Home Shield's coverage is true and my only complaint was that the initial contact to get the ball rolling on the pool was not the most friendly and efficient process. I've got no problem with the online system but I'm old school so I wanna talk to somebody first, more so as I didn’t know if the pool was covered cause there were two coverages, one is the pool and the other one is the salt-making system. Luckily, I had both.

It’s very hot here in Fresno and the house wouldn’t go any lower than 85˚-86˚, which is very hot, so I called American Home Shield and I had them send somebody out. The contractors came out that day, which was very good. The guy went up, checked everything, and said everything was fine even though the air conditioning unit was still blowing 85˚. He was there for a short time. About an hour later, the whole thing went off, so I called them again and another guy came out. He came out at 7 o’clock at night and it was very hot. He said that the wires had touched and it blew a fuse. He fixed the fuse and said everything was fine. The next day, it was still 85˚ in there, so I called them out again. He came out, spent a lot of time checking the temperatures, explained everything and told me that everything was working. However, it was still 85˚ in there.
So, two days later, I called them out again and I said that something was wrong and it was unacceptable. So, they came out again. I had a handyman working there and the repairman took him up on top and showed him. They went through everything then they went up to the attic. The repairman told me he went up in the attic and checked all the ducts and that everything was fine. However, the handyman told me the repairman just climbed up the ladder and shone the flashlight at the ducts. I couldn’t call them out again because he spent a lot of time explaining to me everything he did. The system appeared to be working but there was something wrong.
So, I called an independent person out, who went up in the attic and found that four of the ducts were squashed or broken that was why the cool air was not getting into the house. He replaced them and the temperature of the house went down to 77˚- 76˚, which was livable. He charged me $300. I called American Home Shield and explained everything to them, but they said, “Well, too bad, we didn’t approve it, so it’s not covered.”
Another thing they did was, we have a dual-pack system here which is one unit, heating and cooling, and American Home Shield doesn’t have that availability to check that it’s one unit. The heating wasn’t running good, so I wanted them to check both sides of the one unit. The rep said that they had to check both boxes, but according to her, my service fee was only gonna be one service fee because it was one person going out and it was one unit.
I told her that I knew it was gonna happen that they were gonna charge me $250, which was the two service cost, $125 each. But she said no and that she was making the correction notice and I wouldn’t be charged. As soon as that bill came out on my computer, it said $250 and they sent me a notice that I owed $250. I called four days later and they said that there was no correction notice. So after talking to two different people, they put in another correction notice, supposedly.
Now, I want to go ahead and pay the $125, but everybody tells me not to pay until it’s all corrected. And it’s gonna be three to five days and that was the 5th of July and today is the 11th and it still says $250. I got two past due bills and when I called, they told me to wait. I said okay but not to charge my account at $250. They said they wouldn't. So that’s where I stand - you have somebody willing to pay what they owe and then telling me not to do it, and I still don’t see the correction coming out. So, that’s part of it that I’m unhappy with, too. I have four properties with American Home Shield and I’ve had them for 20 years. 75% of the time, there has been no problem. But this has been a nightmare for me.

The AC was not cooling the house and it kept shutting down. I called American Home Shield and the first rep I spoke to was Nadia. She had a very thick Indian accent and she had me on the phone for about 58 minutes, supposedly going to get a supervisor but never came back with a supervisor and then basically told me that whatever Doctor Cool has for me, I have to accept. She was just plain out rude. A couple of times I've called AHS, I've gotten someone with a very thick Indian accent. It was a language barrier thing because I couldn't understand them and they couldn't understand me so they could not understand my situation.
After I spoke to Nadia, I had to wait for the contractor to come out again, not fix the problem and do a call and get another rep and explain what's been going with Doctor Cool for AHS to send somebody else out. Doctor Cool had been out to my house six times for the same problem and the problem wasn't getting fixed. Also, they have requested money out of my pocket. They left me without air in a 117 degrees weather for days in a week at a time.
The prior visit with Doctor Cool, they had put in a compressor and after they completed that job, they did not bolt down the unit back to the building. Also, the compressor was not an issue and it was something else. I explained to Doctor Cool that the last contractor they sent out didn't bolt down my system. That morning, they ran out while I was at work and went in for my room then bolted it down and I caught it all on camera. On the other hand, the last AHS rep I spoke to, I told her my issues and she's very sympathetic. She called her supervisor and they were able to get Control Comfort out. I’ve had accounts with AHS since 2008, and I have a house in Tennessee that has had problems with the AC. It went out in May and they're still dealing with it as of yesterday. The company that they sent out is horrible. The first time they came out, they said that it was low on Freon, so they added some. But the unit is only two years old, so it shouldn’t be low on Freon. Then of course, that wasn’t what it was so the AC stopped working again. And so, we had to have the contractor back out and the people that they were sending don’t know ACs at all.
Three visits ago, they thought that they had found the problem. But they’re not looking at the entire unit. One of their trips when they came out, they shoved the piece back against my wall in the basement and it was totally disconnected. And so, my entire basement was flooded because they didn’t put it together. So, then I’m having to deal with that. It’s been a nightmare with these people. They were there as late as yesterday still trying to get things figured out.
Whenever they do a repair, it’s like they cause some other problem to happen. The last repair that they did, the thermostat would not control the unit any longer. The technician came out and said it was probably the thermostat that was bad. He had a thermostat in his truck, but he refused to go into the house because he said that my contract did not cover it. So, he just left. I assumed that they were gonna send somebody else out, but they didn’t.
So, I talked to the manager and told them, “How can you tell me it’s the thermostat if you don’t look at the thermostat? Something happened with the thermostat that now it doesn’t control the unit. You have to look at it and figure that out, right?” He said, “Absolutely.” So, he sent somebody out there to look at it. They determined that it was the thermostat, but they didn’t have one with them. It’s been ridiculous. My renters that are there work for an AC company and they keep chomping at the bit whenever I use AHS because I have it and I’m going to use it. I’m not going to let them call somebody else that's not covered by AHS. So, they’ve been really frustrated with it. They’ve been without air conditioning for several weekends, so it’s not been pretty.
I also have a gas leak in my house in Denver and this has been going on since Friday. This is the third day that I’ve taken off work to deal with this. My energy company locked me out of my meter on Friday. And every time I get sent a contractor, I go online and look at all the reviews, and they’re all 1-star. This could cost me my job if I’m sitting here again today and they don’t show up. And I’m gonna be without water again all weekend. Right now, I’ve never had any problem dealing with American Home Shield, and submitting a claim has always been great. But their contractors are still subpar that I probably won’t renew anymore. I would rather pay for it out of my pocket at this point.

But the contractors that AHS has picked out so far have been great. They’re all very professional local companies who do a great job and they are generally able to make repairs. Although I had a repair that was supposed to be done that needed parts and the choice of parts was not what I was needing. We have a white kitchen and we need a white kitchen faucet but they only had stainless steel appliances available. They offered me one faucet for free and then a second upgrade faucet for an additional $75. It was probably fine but it just doesn’t come in the white color that I needed. All in all, I don’t like the length of time it takes to get someone here, to get the part needed, and to get the problem fixed. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim for issues involving our plumbing, garbage disposal, and faucet. And the gentleman who came was kind of weird. I told him that the garbage disposal was leaking and he looked at it. He then told me that there was mold underneath it and that there was water damage, so he called EcoDry and the gentleman came out within 45 minutes. And that guy went, "Well, we'll have to tear this down. We can call your adjuster for the homeowner insurance, and they’ll help clear it.” I asked, "What if it's not covered?" and he told me that 99% of the time it is covered. But I didn't let them. I told them that they can do it the other way around and to call the adjuster.
And because of that, the guy who came would not change my faucet because, like he said, there was mold underneath it. So I called another company to get a second opinion. My homeowners’ insurance gave me the name and I called them. The guy came out and told me there was some water damage. It wasn’t expensive. But there was no mold. So I called the plumbing company again and American Home Shield and told them to send the guy back. But the guy would not come back out. He said that there was mold down there. And even though the second company took pictures, he would not come. He still has not replaced my faucet. He just won't.
I called American Home Shield and they were trying to help me, but they said that because the guy said there was water damage, the water damage has to be fixed even though there's no mold there. And I don’t know what the faucet has to do with the water damage. I have supposedly 60 days to call them with no additional charges but I don’t know if I could even get this done within 60 days. The guy was definitely in cahoots with EcoDry because he had the guy’s phone number on his phone and everything, so there must be something going on where he gets some kind of a kickback from them. It was the weirdest experience I ever had. I also don’t understand why AHS gets people from places like Glendale, which is an hour away. I know that they have companies that are closer here.
But the guy fixed the other things. He fixed one of my toilets and replaced the garbage disposal. Then, there were the handles, but he told me that he didn't have proper handles so he'd just tighten them as much as he can. And then there were the little faucets underneath the toilets which turn off the water in emergency things. Those froze because I haven't used them in a long time. The guy went, "Well, I can't replace those because if I replace them, I'll break them.”

A social media representative contact me personally, and we were able to find a quality plumber to perform the work and replace the disposal under warranty. She was incredibly helpful and responsive in navigating the process.
I would leave 5 stars for her, but I'm going with 4 stars because I shouldn't have had to escalate the issue in the first place. More reputable service providers would mean I wouldn't have had to escalate the issue.

After doing some investigation, here's what I found out. All the quality plumbers, AC people, etc, have so much work that they would never take the lower paying work from a home warranty company. De facto, you get the worst of the subcontractors. They are happy to take your money, but when you have a problem nothing is covered. I finally cancelled today. It was the final straw for me.
My garbage disposal is original to the house. The other day it made a horrible rattling noise, and I found two blades had rusted out and were resting in the bottom. I pulled them out, and filed a claim to replace it. The plumbing contractor came to visit, and I looked them up and they have 2 stars on Yelp. He was here for a total of 5 minutes and just wrote down model numbers of my disposal and my hot water heater. Then left.
A day later, AHS called and said my broken water heater showed no mechanical problems and that garbage disposal was not covered according to subsection blah blah of my contract because the plumber said that I broke it myself (or some other such crazy thing). So, that's the scam. They collect $75 bucks from you as the deductible, send out the worst subcontractors possible, then deny all claims. And it's a multi-million dollar industry. Well, I just opted out. You should too.
Hello, Bryan. We apologize that you have had a claim that was denied and you disagree with that decision. Our records show that a 2nd opinion company was offered at no additional fee and you decided to wait on that cancelation request. You have been an AHS customer for 8 years, we are definitely not a scam. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns.

The plumbing fittings behind my upstairs shower had worn ever time, so it leaked behind the wall and down into my living room ceiling. The plumber that AHS sent out was good. He found the leak and fixed it. What I wasn’t happy with was the time they had send a sheetrocker to fix the wall that they had to cut through during the repair. There was a lot of miscommunication as far as when he was gonna be here.
He left me a message saying that he was gonna be in the area between such time on such a day, but he never talked to me so I never was sure whether that was a confirmed time. He just said he was gonna be in the area. So I’ve tried calling and getting a hold of them. I left him a message from the number that he had called me from and he didn’t reply back to me. AHS kept on trying to get a hold of him and they couldn’t get a hold of him either. He ended up coming and I wasn’t here because I was working. It took a while to get all that fixed. I had to complain a bunch before he came back and finished it. I had him come at May 10th and it wasn’t completed until May 23rd.
I also felt it was pretty crappy because they only fixed the damage that the plumber caused. He had to cut through my daughter’s wall and they fixed that. But they didn’t fix the downstairs ceiling, so I asked the sheetrocker if he could come back and fix the downstairs ceiling for me. He fixed both of those, but they weren’t filled in. All he basically did was put a piece of sheetrock in and tape around it. You could tell there was a hole cut in the wall and stuff. When fixing the walls you gotta come back, let it dry, then come back and sand it and stuff but none of that was done.
AHS response time isn’t good as well. If I have an emergency and most of my emergencies are plumbing, it’s always a couple days where they’ll get somebody to come out or they’ll have somebody call to set up an appointment to come out. So you’re losing all those days in between. They answer the phone and they’ll get your information but when they actually give it to somebody, it could be several days after.

Please do not purchase an annual home warranty with AHS. If you are having a true emergency, like your AC going out in a heatwave or your fridge stops working when you have family visiting from out of town, know that it'll take 2-3 weeks (and sometimes just never) to resolve the issue if you go through AHS. This is not at all clear when you purchase a home warranty. The website only allows you to request service but then it takes days for the website to ping the subcontractor who you then have to call (and sit on hold) and then get your appointment for 7-8 days later. If you decide to call AHS on the phone, expect a very long wait on hold before being put through to one of those huge, impersonal, noisy call centers.
I have used AHS for 1.5 years and there have been some okay experiences (I mean that by the 3rd visit with the same problem it either gets fixed or I just throw in the towel) but most recently a repairman came and actually made the appliance function worse than when he arrived. There is no recourse. There is no way to lodge a complaint. This company does not care about customers. I have no idea if there is another home warranty company out there but I would highly recommend looking into really anyone other than AHS. Dealing with AHS has been among the most depressing experiences in the past 18 months for me and my family.

We got AHS as our home warranty company for a year when we purchased our home. NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. Every contractor they sent was INCOMPETENT and made our problems worse. The first company they sent to repair our pool which ended up being a simple fix came SIX times and didn’t repair the problem. We had to jump through hoops to get an outside vendor authorized. With the next pool problem they did authorize our outside vendor. The third pool problem they sent another incompetent pool company to repair the problem (we requested authorization for our outside vendor and they declined). They came out 2 times and made the problem much worse both times. We had to ARGUE and threaten legal action to get our outside vendor approved. They still did not cover everything necessary to fix the problems their company created. DO NOT PURCHASE AHS!!!

I was putting my house on the market and I was doing all kinds of stuff. I had brand new remotes for my two garage doors and I was unable to program them. It turned out that the motherboards were gone on both of them. Also, one of the garage doors wasn’t working. It would go up but it wouldn't go down. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they sent a guy from Garage Door Solutions. His name was Jason and he was a great guy. It was the second time that I had him there because when the other side door had gone out, he also fixed that. So, Jason and I got to know each other. He fixed my garage doors and in the last five days that I was there at the house, I enjoyed the heck out of my garage doors. Being able to drive my cars in and out of the one that had gone out was fabulous.
Then one time, the inspector for the buyers who were buying the home determined that the attic fan wasn’t working. So, I had to have an electrician come out to look at that. At the time, I already moved out of the house and someone else was living there. So, I took time off work to be there for the appointment. The guys went up there and they determined what we already knew, that the attic fan wasn’t working, but they had to call AHS back to see if the problematic piece of the equipment was covered. They were on hold for quite some time and I'm sure they got other jobs to do besides waiting around in my upstairs for AHS to answer the phone.
I understand that they have to follow a protocol but I had a copy of my AHS contract at the time and I showed them that the contract was saying that the equipment was covered. I didn't know why the representative on the other end of the line couldn't see that it was right there in black and white and I wondered why she had to talk to a supervisor about it. So it delayed the repair and I had to come back again another day once they got the approval that that part was indeed covered. So as a consumer, I get the trickle-down effect of that on somebody else. If somebody goes to do another job and they're supposed to be at my house at a certain time, they can't get there because their technician's on hold for 30 minutes trying to get an approval. So, besides the long wait time on the phone, that part of the process is something that's got to be streamlined.
When I sent in a review, I suggested to AHS that when they assign a contractor to do a job, they should already send that contractor a snippet of the contract. They don’t need the entire contract, but AHS could copy and paste a section of it into an email or whatever to the company so that they have a list of what is covered. That would avoid that phone call and the delay for the customer and the contractor. Everybody would be a lot happier because that contractor would already know what's covered.
I had AHS for the 10 years that I've been in the house and I would always submit my claims over the phone. The wait time on hold could be pretty rough. Then in the past year, I started using their online process and it was fantastic and beyond easy. Within seconds, I got a text that said who had been assigned to me. Then, within 24 hours, I got contacted by the contractor that was gonna come out. And within the time that I had AHS, they sent some people out with whom I've been less than happy with. But in the recent month besides Jason and the electrician, I had other contractors come out and they were great. I also submitted a claim for a plumbing issue and I called for the air conditioner as well but American Home Shield only pays $10 of the Freon.
All in all, American Home Shield was useful but with some added changes in their customer service, they could be outstanding. Also, I was more happy with the contractors that were sent out than I was necessarily happy with American Home Shield. I would not recommend AHS and if I bought another home today, I would not go with American Home Shield. There are too many competitors out there now that are doing things that other people are using.

I got American Home Shield to have coverage just in case something breaks and I've been with them for about eight months. Most of our interactions with their reps went well but I have a washing machine that broke twice and the second time, it took a while for them to get it fixed. I told the guy from Chesapeake Appliance Repair, and I probably shouldn't have, that another company had come out and fixed it who said that it was the fuse that was blown. The guy wrote down fuse blown on his paper and didn't pull anything off the washing machine to see what was wrong with it and asked me to sign the paper. I wasn't happy about that. Then, it took a long time and he didn't come out to fix the problem. So, AHS transferred the case to another company.
When the next person came out, they said it wasn't the fuse and that it was the timer. If we had took the time to pull everything off to see what the real problem was instead of writing down what the other guy wrote down or did, we could have saved a lot of time. The tech is scheduled to come out and I'm still waiting on that. I've had to go to laundry and wash my clothes which is money out of my pocket that I have to spend on top of the $50 I spend every month and the $100 service fee that I've had to pay twice.
AHS needs to hire contractors that are reliable when they send them out to people's homes. Also, sometimes when you call these companies, it’s hard to get someone on the phone and you constantly get voicemail which is very annoying. Sometimes it takes a little while for them to schedule you for them to come out to your home.

I submitted a claim for an AC issue recently and got scammed. In the contract it said that they have to check, clean and repair any AC issues. I had a separate one in my garage that was blowing hot air and never worked properly, yet they didn’t do anything to it. I was expecting to pay my $75 call cost and I understand that some things aren’t covered. But their idea was to install another R-22 unit and it was still gonna cost me $1200, $460 of which was in Freon. So I went with the smart option instead to replace both the inside and the outside units with the new Freon system, and it cost me $4300. I got $1000 towards it but still the warranty didn’t help me all that much. They use really cheap contractors. The idea behind the warranty is great but when you have a real issue, you’re still paying a ton of money out-of-pocket.

That was one of the things that’s covered by our American Home Shield warranty and submitting that claim with them was very easy. I gave them a call then they called the contractor. After that, the locksmith called me and we set up the time for them to come out.
He was very professional and he gave some good suggestions. We were trying to figure out if we wanted all of the locks to be the same, and there was one that we needed to change out so that he could make one key to fit all of them. So, he set us up very well and he was here for about 45 minutes to an hour. He did exactly what we wanted him to do and he took care of business. He also tested every key before he gave them to us and we’ve not had any problem since he came out. We had a second claim for a plumbing issue and it was also handled very well. So, we’ve been very happy with American Home Shield so far.

Three years in a row my heating element went out and I had to call American Home Shield to get someone to come out here. Every time Sears went out, they said that the part was a malfunctioning part and not a good one and could cause a fire, yet that part was still being put in my dryer. It's expected to go out in the next few months, usually when it starts to get cold and I can't hang out clothes anywhere.
My most recent claim was my oven. I'm a baker and every time I made cakes or pies, my cakes were never done even though they had cooked for a whole hour. Sears came out on that and the tech said that it sticks. In a few months there was no cake for they were coming out raw. So I called again and this time the contractor did something on the computer and the computer was talking back to him doing something. The tech said the oven was off 200 degrees and to get it regulated they had to get it to set and hold the right temperature. It didn't make sense to me but that fixed it.
My aggravation was I wasted time and money on the service right before that when they told me it sticks. The Sears guy did not know he was supposed to go through this computer thing to make the temperature when they got it set where it should be. I've got to go to this procedure to make it stay. I wasted my money and that man did not know how to repair it and I had to go through that process again. But it's fixed now and it's working beautifully. The American Home Shield reps were also knowledgeable. I would recommend AHS to my friends.

He repaired the unit within an hour for the first and second time then the third time, he ordered a part which took about a week to get here and he installed it in about two hours. He got it taken care of in a timely manner. So far, AHS has stood behind their warranty. I've had good experiences with them and I would recommend them.

We had 20 different keys for all the locks in this house, and part of American Home Shield’s warranty service was provision of seven of those being included as part of a lump sum fee. So we went through AHS to have our locks re-keyed and it was for a heavily-discounted rate. And then we did the rest of the locks with them, too. The locksmith came out a couple of days after I called AHS, and he was professional and did a good job.
We had some serious issues with another one of AHS's contractors. An AC contractor came out twice on two different calls for the same thing. And on the second call, he capped our overflow lines for our central AC and flooded our kitchen. But we have wet drywall in our kitchen now that has not been repaired yet. We called them 10 times on Saturday and then finally got someone to come out. They sent a technician out on Monday to correct the damage that the other technician had made to our system, and then said that somebody would contact us about the wet drywall. And we haven’t heard from anybody yet. I’ll give them a couple of days. And then I’m gonna go to their office personally and stay in there until they fix it. It should have never come to that for such a simple repair.

I moved in here about 10 years ago and I didn’t find out about American Home Shield until a little bit later, but I caught on to it after a while because there were a number of things that have happened that I wasn’t aware of. I noticed, however, that the monthly fee has gone up. It was about $57 before and now it's $75. But that has been since over the years.
I had a plumbing claim when the water heater went off and there was no hot water for two weeks. I called American Home Shield and Infinity Plumbing came out. They found out that there was a problem with the electrical plug that was part of it and they had to replace the water heater. And I thought they had found that out when they first put it in because we weren’t getting any hot water. At first, I called them out a couple of times and the next thing I knew, some other guy came in and replaced the plug. He was very pleasant about it and he went to see what the problem was. And then he had to go out to get a part and come back. I asked about the issue because he wrote up a report on the water heater and it was submitted somewhere, but I didn’t get a copy of that report. And although the water is fine now, I’ve been having problems with the flow of my water. I’m not getting a strong pressure.
Nevertheless, I'd tell my friends to check out American Home Shield. I’ve also suggested it to my sister who's in California. But she was here during those times when I needed to take care of the things that needed to be replaced and done around here. And she has seen the contractors when they came in. I’ve had the dishwasher and the range replaced and I’ve had a number of things done because this house has begun to wear down. And on and on, American Home Shield's service has been good.

We had a problem with the heat pump not coming on and there was no difficulty submitting the claim to AHS for it. But there was a bit of a disconnect because the website said that the service fee of $75 would be due when the technician arrived. However, the technician said that there was no money due and that he wasn't to collect any. He didn't leave us a statement of what had been done and so I ended up calling the company because I like to have something for my record or email. My record is about what exactly AHS prepared and that I don't owe them money.
They wrote back and said that it was all taken care of and gave me the note about what happened. Moreover, they said they don't give an invoice unless they have to charge me money. That seemed really strange to me and I thought they can't possibly be free. I asked a little further about what was going on and they said AHS now collects directly from the customer rather than having the customer pay the contractor. The website didn't say anything about that and a couple of days later, we had gotten a notice in the mail saying that our payment was overdue. We had known about it so we paid for it. The only glitch with the system was knowing what AHS expected of us. If they were charging a card on file, then fine, but we didn't know about it.
Also a number of years back, there was one appliance technician that was assigned to take care of a problem. He came out, looked at the overheating refrigerator, gave me a whole bunch of assignments and then he left. He collected the fee and said he was gonna order parts. He hasn't done a diagnostic on it and he was off doing other things. He wouldn't tell us when he was coming back and he had no confidence that his snapshot diagnosis of the problem was gonna fix things. We asked AHS to transfer the service call to another technician. It took a bit of back and forth with AHS for them to finally do that. That was not a Home Shield problem but it was a problem of the contractor – except where we got stuck having to pay a fee twice and then we had to apply to be reimbursed. And that was a fair amount of hassle.
The first guy had gotten all upset about this and we have made a point of not having him back on any of our other jobs. But we were perfectly satisfied with the technician who came out to fix the refrigerator problem. We've had American Home Shield for about 20 years and the service fee keeps going up, which is to be expected. I think a little harder now about trying to fix the problem myself or having AHS come out. However, we've been generally happy with them. We don't have to call them too often and we're happy to do so when the time comes.

He got in touch with American Home Shield and said, “this is what it’s gonna cost because living in Hawaii, nothing is cheap.” And AHS determined that they'd just replace the refrigerator. Then he applied some sealant and put some extra coolant or anti-freeze, the R22 that they had, and set it up. The noise stopped and the air conditioners are now working fine so everything’s good. The contractor did great. However, the website page was saying that I did not have to pay anything but then the contractor asked me for a $75 fee. So I was confused but I paid it off.
AHS is doing pretty good but they should let the homeowners know that they may be charged extra fees by whoever comes and serves them. The contractor added pressure into the A/C compressor by adding the Freon so that could be why they charged that extra fee. And I don’t think that was covered on the contract itself. Nevertheless, AHS is worth it and it’s great. We just bought a new house and we requested AHS for the new house and the owners paid for it.

They let me know when they were gonna be on their way on the same day. The technician was friendly, knowledgeable and seemed to know what he was doing.

The thermostat in my stove wasn’t working so I called American Home Shield on the phone to submit a claim for repair. AHS is good and I would recommend them to anybody.

American Home Shield is a good company to get an insurance on your appliance that you need and the service is great. I filed a claim for an oven repair. I did that online and AHS's site was user-friendly. The contractor was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He first said it would take six to seven weeks for the part to come. But then, he called me and said they got the part. And he came in and did it on a Monday morning, which was about three weeks after the claim was filed.

American Home Shield's online requesting system works very well and it's very easy to use. But we had some issues a while back on a billing situation where they kept trying to bill me for a service I didn’t have. One other time before that, they had dispatched an electrician for a plumbing problem and then tried to charge me for the next call out. I appreciate everyone wanting to get paid but that wasn’t my fault. I had put in the correct issue and the wrong type of contractor was dispatched. I had to fight a lot on the phone and make a couple of different calls to get it sorted out. That was not ideal but I've found that the actual service, when something is wrong, is done quickly and well. And that was why I stayed as customer.
One time, the contractor missed the original call window that I was promised. It was 100 degrees and my air conditioning was not working so it was quite urgent. I appreciate that they were probably very busy though. Still, I followed up and they got out here within a couple of days. It's been working perfectly since the repair. Overall, my experience with the warranty has been easy, effective and without headaches.

The AC wasn't coming on, so I submitted a claim and it was good. AHS sent Three Brothers A/C Heating and they were great! They came in, did what they needed to do and left. They were professional and they put on something on their feet so they won't get the house dirty. However, I also had a microwave request and I wasn't impressed. AHS sent somebody and they weren't able to order the necessary parts. And they told me I was responsible that's why the wrong item was ordered when taking the measurements or whatever is needed to replace the item should have been done by the technician. But overall, AHS saved people who are not handy the headache of dealing with different contractors. It's great to have some place I can call and make sure that things are taken care of.

My first claim to AHS was for my water heater. It was originally with the house from 1987. It was running good and then all of a sudden, it started to smell like propane. The claim was a 24-hour turnover and the people who came were in with a new water heater. They were phenomenal. Shortly thereafter, within the same week, my air conditioner stopped working. When I originally filed the claim for it, I was assigned a certain person to come out but nobody had called me for two days. I then called the number that was provided for this company that was supposedly going to help and I was told that they were not able to solve that claim as I was outside of their range. I had to re-file the claim and that was when I got assigned to this other company.
This unfriendly man came out and he told me it was going to take two weeks for the part to come in because it was on backorder which was fine and understandable. It was just that it was so hot in Iowa so I was pretty darn miserable for a couple of weeks. But the two gentlemen who came out on Tuesday were very friendly and the air conditioner was fixed.
I've been very happy with the service of AHS. They're prompt and easy to use too. My only complaint was that nobody informed me when that first guy was unable to repair my air conditioner, so that added about an extra week between filing the claim, talking to him, and then filing another claim and waiting for somebody to contact me. I went close to three weeks without an air conditioner. Other than that, everything was handled very well. The online process was super slick and I appreciate that it was easy to pay online. Also, the local rep when I initially started to have issues with the air conditioning company was able to talk to me and he was very good.

The slide on our dishwasher broke. My wife then submitted a claim with American Home Shield and she was happy with it. An appointment was made and the contractor came. He had the part that was needed in his truck and it was fixed the same day. We've also used AHS for the dryer drum recently and our complaint with that was, the contractor didn't have the part in his truck. He said it was a common part, which made it stranger because if it was a common part, you'd think they would stock it. He also told us that we can't use the dryer until he came back and that was a week and a half.
There was another time when we filed a claim for the original AC unit that was in our house and the contractors seemed like they were looking for ways to deny it. They said that the motor was dirty because the unit is 25 years old. But I could see and I know that maintenance is done because I keep my maintenance since it is required by our contract. I think if I didn't have that they would have just been, “Yeah, I know. That’s on you to put a $700 motor.” So I understand why some people might be pissed where it seems that they’re trying to get out of paying the play. Also, I’ve heard other people say that instead of replacing things AHS would just keep trying to fix it even though they know it’s broken. Still, the guys replaced the motor and the outside parts and they fixed the unit.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for three years and so far, I have really been impressed with them and I’ve recommended them to several of our friends. We had a refrigerator go out on us and they replaced it. I’ve also had a really good experience with them this time with the air conditioning. We had a weird problem because it concerned a part in the condenser. The AC would work for two or three days then all of a sudden, go back and blow the fuse. We even had to have the power company come out and check it. It was awfully warm during that time and HD Plumbing had to come out several times. But every time I called them back to redo this thing, they were there within a few hours. I was really impressed.
They finally figured out what it was. My computer thermostat was the problem. But we were out of town when I got a message on my computer. I called HD and they made arrangements to meet somebody. When we got back, the problem had been corrected. It was an excellent experience. I’ve used another company for years but HD sure sold me. The only complaint I have with American Home Shield is the fact that when you call in, the wait seems to be tremendous at times. They can't seem to be able to figure out how many calls they're gonna have and what the deal is. I usually file claims by phone because it's easier for me. I generally feel more comfortable that way. That is what happens when you deal with old people. I’m also retired so I have time to sit and wait for the service rep to come on. But if American Home Shield can do something better, it would probably be helpful.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and navigating through their website was not easy because it didn't give me an idea on how to tell them what was wrong. I did a claim for plumbing and the site just said plumbing whereas there's more than one plumbing issue. And I couldn't be specific. Before, I used to make a phone call, and they'd understand what I was talking about but now, it's hard to make a phone call.
Also right now, I'm trying to do something for the AC. I had a home warranty before American Home Shield and they would come out to clean the AC for free or I could just pay some kind of fee for them to maintain it so it won't break down. And I'm trying to do that, and I don't know if that's within my AHS policy or not. They told me of a requirement that I had to do in order for them to give me that insurance. And I can't find that kind of the specific things in their site. So, I had to call and I had to wait. And the lady that was the on the phone was nice enough. She explained to me that they don't do that. But still, American Home Shield's service is excellent. They came out and fixed whatever was wrong. Also, I've shopped other providers, and American Home Shield has the most competitive price.

All of my sister's 40 rentals have American Home Shield on them and 99% of her tenants were happy with how their claims turned out, and she sold me on them. I bought my house in September 2017 so it hasn’t been a very long time that I've been using them. Home Shield itself has been great and responsive, but sometimes the contractors they sent out weren’t the greatest in the world. My AC was just blowing warm air recently and submitting a claim for that issue was fast. I did it over the internet and I found their website very easy to navigate. They had somebody out there the next day, which is good considering it's in Phoenix, Arizona.
But the contractor had a crappy truck and bad attitude, and he wasn't professional. He was hemming and hawing, and he was trying to do everything he could to get out of doing the repair. The way our houses are built, to get to my second story, we had to go into my neighbor's yard. My neighbor is wonderful and I said I could knock on her door and she’d let us in. The contractor said my AC was low on Freon. But it's the same thing with Freon in an AC in a house as in a car. If something’s missing, there's a very good chance there’s a leak. But he just looked my AC over for a few seconds, stuck Freon in it, charged me an extra $200, and went out the door. I’m assuming the 2 pounds of Freon at $100 a pound that he said he put in my AC is what he really put in there because I wasn’t up there on the roof with him and I didn’t see the weight of the can before he went up, although he showed me its weight when he got down. Nevertheless, everything seems to be working okay since the repair was done a couple of weeks ago.

The water heater was on its last leg. The pilot light wouldn’t stay lit at all times. I was told that it kept shutting because it's old. They only last for about 10 years and mine was 14 years already, so we had to change it. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone to look at the water heater. They had an automated system this time. The first time I had called for my washing machine, I was able to speak with a live person. The reps that time were quick and my service came the very next day.
I liked the three contractors that came for my heater. The first one was Carlos and he was really good. He explained to me and I didn’t feel uncomfortable asking. He was very responsive and he knew exactly what was going on. He was able to fix it for that evening, but the pilot light went off again so AHS had to send another tech. The tech who replaced the water heater was also awesome. But it was unfortunate that I had to replace it. Nobody likes to spend a lot of money when it comes to repairs and to buy a new one.
Every time I call AHS, there'll be a $100 for them to send a contractor out. I wish it would be less than that because they fixed the washer, but after a few months, I just bought a new washer because it was on its last leg. I said I'm not gonna call American Home Shield again to have them fix it and spend $100. I could buy a washer for $400. But other than that, the warranty is great to have especially for people who don’t know anything about repairs. Even if they look through Google, it's just really good to have a live person look at the issue and tell you what's wrong. Also, AHS is very quick in putting the service.

My wife and I bought our first home together and decided insure it through AHS the first year since it was an older house. We did end up filing 5 complaints over the year, creating around 1,100 dollars in expenses. Most of the issues ended up being small, things I could have done on my own probably with 20-100 dollars. The issues with AC and that company is the only reason I will giving a second star. The 3 complaints handled by 2 Electrical and Plumbing companies were awful experiences, and I am going through one right now.
Recently, about May I noticed a heavy drip coming from my discharge hose and started hearing a whistle coming from the PRV, which would spray some scalding hot water with the slightest touch. I also believe it was flipping itself. So we filed with AHS and they sent out Rapp's Heating and Plumbing located a state away. I showed the technician the water pooling in my crawlspace from it and he said the PRV needed to be changed but he didn't have one on him. Then, he switched it up and said that I needed to relieve the PRV once a day for 2 weeks and see if that stopped or slowed it down. To give him a call and he'd run right back out and swap it if he needed too.
Well, 2 and half weeks later my steady drip is like barely turning the faucet on, so I called him back only to be told that I needed to refile with AHS because he already changed the valve and if it was doing it again then we just needed to replace the whole water heater. As nice as that is, that's insurance fraud. So I tell him he didn't change it and asked why he lied to me, but he hung up on me. So I called Rapp's only for the woman on the phone to call the technician and he relayed what he told me. She goes on to tell me that he reported that there wasn't any visible leak to AHS, which I only laughed and asked to speak to the owner. My AHS warranty went dead last week, and now they wouldn't help me either. The pour coming out of the pipe in photo was almost as bad as it now...and the plumber said I don't have a leak.
The time before this I had a leak in the toilet and the technician who worked for himself came out and was contracted through Rapps charged me an extra 80 dollars for a floater because AHS didn't cover parts. I found out that I had been had from that plumper when the HVAC came out and replaced every part in my AC Unit, except Freon. I know some of this isn't AHS, but they contract these crooks to come out and fix our homes who are probably not only robbing us, the customer, but AHS too.

When American Home Shield sends out a contractor, you need to make sure that the contractor is reputable! My father and step-mother live near Beaumont and American Home Shield sent a plumber from Spring, Texas, (K&G Services) to repair their water heater. The plumber charged them $800, even though the contract with American Home Shield is suppose to be $75. The plumbers were using foul language and tore up their house, cutting into walls, etc. The plumbers did not clean up their mess, leaving my handicapped father and stepmother to clean up the mess!
When American Home Shield was contacted, they said there was nothing that they could do. When K&G Services was contacted, they said they would refund them $200; however, they never sent the refund and K&G Services is not taking their phone calls. Several years ago, we had American Home Shield and they sent several unreputable contractors out to my house, so we finally canceled our warranty with them!

We had an ejector pump begin to fail around 11:00pm on a Thursday evening. I called immediately and requested to have an elevated or emergency service call placed as we had sewage running up the drain (basement shower, and around pump). They gave me the name of the contractor they selected and told me they would call in 4-24 hours. I called the contractor the following morning with my reference number to see if they were able to get out on Friday to fix the issue as I can't have the possibility of water coming up in the basement. The contractor told me they wouldn't be able to come out until the Monday (3 days later). I called AHS back and asked them to find me another contractor that would be able to service the issue the same day. They informed me that all their contractors were busy and were not going to be able to service this but I could check back in 2-3 hours to see if there were any openings (what would be midday Friday).
I told them to cancel my service request and another plumbing company can come out during the day Friday to identify the issue (free of charge) I might add and fix same day. Why is it that AHS can't expedite issues or allow consumers to use the emergency service when there are major issues or threatening issues in their homes. Most heating/plumbing and cooling companies offer round the clock service (or weekends at a minimum) but AHS doesn't seem to dispatch to them. We've used AHS before with great (albeit slow) service for non-emergency issues but I expect better when the risk for flooding sewage is creeping up.

The heat came down because the fan was freezing up on the outside unit. I called American Home Shield and their reps responded really fast. It was a Friday and it was 24 hours before the contractor sent me a text and it was Monday when they gave me a time when they’d show up. And then, they showed up. It happened to be a company that does my maintenance anyway, except I didn’t know there were different people in there.
The guy who came was very knowledgeable and went straight to the source. It turned out that the unit was low on Freon. He told me how that caused the issue. There was not enough coolant going in and it stopped there at the fans. Last time, it was one of the thermostats from that same company down here. When he did the service, he showed me how to adjust the air ducts going into the rooms so I didn’t lose time and get more warmth in certain places and cold air in other places since it was summer. I watch out when they come out so I stayed outside with the guy working there and he explained what he did. Everything has been operating well since the repair.
AHS reacted really well. I don't call them very often and take care of a lot of stuff myself. But I’ll call them for the stuff that I can’t do. My neighbor across asked me about AHS because they were looking into it. I recommended AHS. I’ve gone to two others and AHS was the only one that could react fast enough. They would tell me upfront what it’s gonna cost me with no problem and they could take the money then or when the contractor shows up at the front door for the service. I don't know how much it would have cost for that guy to come out here and take care of all that. But I think what the contractor charges for an hour is more than what I would pay to AHS so having the warranty is very valuable.

I’ve submitted a number of claims to American Home Shield this last year. I get an instant text saying that I'm gonna hear from the contractor within 24 hours and that’s always nice. So, I like that. I had a claim when my water heater quit working and was leaking and I did hear from the plumber. They came out a few days later and fixed the problem. We talked a little bit about what I saw and then he told what the possibilities were and started tearing into it. He told me what he did, cleaned up, and talked to me before he left, which was nice. It was a real good customer service from the plumber.
Everything has been really good with AHS except when my heat pump furnace wasn’t working. They sent out a heat and cooling company and the guy replaced one part of the heat pump. It seemed to be working when he left but ut didn’t last very long. He had to come back out and replaced another part. It worked for a little while and then quit working again. When they came out the third time, he felt like the only thing he could do is replace the furnace.
Once it got to that point, that was a big ticket item and it went to some department of AHS. They probably looked if there was any way they could get out of shelling out that much money. Which I would understand, but my issue was it sat for months. It was right at the end of the cooling season, and I was able to use the electric heat part of the furnace. I’ve mentioned to the contractor that there’s no big hurry. I was really pushing on them at first to do repairs because it was still hot in August. But I said I just wanna get done before the next cooling season comes. And it went all through winter and was in the spring before it got resolved. We were able to schedule everything around our schedules. A contractor came on time and he took a quick look, examined everything and realized it was broken. He then said that he would get me a replacement and he ordered it. He contacted me two weeks later when he had it. Then he came back in and popped in the new one. He was in and out and it was as if he was never here. It was easy peasy.

Usually, our claims are for air conditioning and I’ve also had a microwave shut off on me. AHS sent out a tech for our AC when it wasn't cooling and he gassed it up the first time that he came out. But he had to come back. I have a simple AC and when it got real humid, it was putting out so much water it couldn’t drain it and the drain pipe was stopped up. It wasn’t that humid when he did the repair originally and the unit was cooling but it was barely dripping. He didn’t check to make sure that when he did it the first time that that was slow and good. And when it started really dumping a lot of water, the water was running out in my upstairs in the floor.
I called American Home Shield and gave them my policy number and then they emailed me that somebody will be in contact with me. It was on a Saturday and the guy came the first thing Monday morning. When the air conditioner was running but not cooling, I submitted a claim online and navigating Home Shield's website was easy. The following day, the tech came out and said there were some wires that were shorting out. And after the repair, the air conditioner has been working fine.

The A/C was running like crazy. We would have it set on 82, but it would go up to 85 and it would run for six hours. We finally turned it up so that it would finally turn off. The tech came and looked at it and he thought he fixed it. He closed it, but we had to have him come back a couple of days later. I filed another claim with American Home Shield, so they had him come back and then he thought he figured it out. I did the first claim online and did the second one on the phone. I was trying to talk to someone to see if I had to pay the $100 again. But, I just went through the automated thing and didn't end up talking to anyone.
However, the contractor sent out was really nice, he keeps coming back trying to figure out the issue because the unit is not fixed yet. They came back yesterday morning so that they could climb up in the attic and check everything. He told me to go outside if it stops again and see if the fan is running. If it’s not running, then he knows that he needs to replace that fan, and that’s the plan today. I would tell my friends to get AHS. We had Home Club before, but they were awful.
Good morning Amanda,
I would like to thank you for the feedback that you have thoroughly provided us with regarding your current service claim to have the air conditioner repaired. I hope that you continue to have a good experience after these repairs are completed.

The line that goes into the toilet tank was leaking onto the floor and I was not happy with that because that tank was only put in seven months prior. A plumber was sent out because my toilet was leaking and I was told I had to pay for the toilet. I had HSA then and they certainly weren’t very helpful in telling me what to do. They left me hanging. But with American Home Shield, I’m very pleased at this point. The experience has generally been good when I submit claims and their customer service is much better. I tried doing a claim on the phone but then I went online and the turnaround time was great. I got a response with the information of what I needed to watch for and do.
The plumber who came out was very good as well. He was very nice and he explained things along the way. He said that the toilet wasn't put together properly and he pointed out things that weren't done. Washers weren’t on where they should have been and certain type of bolts that were used were not correct. The plumber AHS sent suggested I call the other plumbing company, for what it's worth, to say it has only been seven months and the tank was leaking. But I’ve had enough with this toilet. He fixed it and it's been five weeks and so far, it's been good.

My experience with AHS has been good and convenient. I've had a couple of different people come up for plumbing before and when I submitted an online form for a leaking toilet, I didn’t get the specific provider I wanted so I canceled it. I called them back in and they were able to help me out really quickly. And it was great with the technician. I'm happy and I’ve recommended AHS to my friends.

Our AC unit was not cooling the house as it should. I submitted the claim online with AHS and I was able to do it quickly. I simply typed in the contract number, the address and the specific problem. They had a list of appliances and I went down to AC and checked it off. In less than 24 hours, they referred me to an AC company which emailed me back with when they would be here. The guy from the AC company came out on that day, contacted me and discussed with me what he found. The house was built way back in the early ‘80s and back then, we didn't have the temperature change because of climate change and we didn’t have the kind of heat waves that we have now. So, now the efficiency is way down below par. I walked in and it was like a furnace is cooking.
To me, the house was built in older times and I needed to upgrade its system, but the AC man said that the system that it came with was installed, but in order for us to upgrade it, there would have to be something that was broken like the compressor or the condenser and there’s really nothing broken. He said that it needed an air filter and he installed a thermostat. He went beyond what most people would do, was honest as he could be and I was happy with the service he provided. I’m still not happy with the AC. But the company is good and I would recommend them because of their experience and the personalities were very good.
American Home Shield has some competition out there that are offering some of the same services, but I’m a loyal person and I’ve always been with AHS. They’re improving on their work with times and it means a lot to me. They’re more customer-oriented, they wanna offer a good service and they have a good product. Companies compete with each other's business, but at the same time, there are a few people that wanna spend extra money to go the extra mile to make a customer feel pleased. American Home Shield really cares about their service.
I'd tell people to compare apples to apples, and not apples to oranges to make sure what all is covered. Just because another company comes at you doesn’t mean that they offer the same thing because there are similarities, but then, there are distinctive differences. You have to really be selective and do your homework to find out what. In my case, American Home Shield offered me a better package. Consider getting them.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a washer that kept stopping at a function and wouldn’t go to the wash. I called AHS, called the contractors themselves, and emailed AHS. The reps were good and very helpful, and they recorded everything I said then connected me to a tech guy a day later. Waiting for the part took a bit long, but as soon as the contractors got it, they called, came and did the unit. It was figuring out the problem or the part to change that took a bit longer, although it wasn’t their fault because the thing had a different sensor and they had to follow a step to fix it. But they were all great and everything was good.
It's really convenient to have somebody look up people for us, so we signed up with American Home Shield in the first place. A friend had it and his fridge went down, and AHS came to fix it, and he didn’t have to worry about searching for different contractors to work on a certain appliance. I like the convenience of AHS sending the right people to us.

We called Home Shield to file a claim for the dishwasher that kept on breaking. The appliance guy came out three times to change some parts on the dishwasher but it didn’t work. So he called the electrical company for them to come out to take the whole circuit breaker out because the actual breaker for it wasn’t a good one. The electrician walked in, looked at the dishwasher issue and he knew exactly what was wrong. He was done in about 15 minutes. And it was great.
For the most part, I've been happy with Home Shield. The only thing is I have an issue with my AC right now and I had an AC company come out and check it. And the person said it could be charged but American Home Shield won't cover it except for the $10 of the actual Freon that have to go in the AC. My air conditioner went out on a Saturday and because the heat index wasn't gonna be over 105, it was not considered an emergency based on American Home Shield's policy. And so I had to wait until Tuesday morning for the tech to come fix it. Needless to say, I didn't have a comfortable weekend because the temperature was in the high 80's. I have a lady that stays with me that's not well. But she just happened to be on vacation so I didn't qualify as having any health concerns and I wasn't real pleased about that. I called them up to submit the claim. The reps helped me in noting down what the issues were and they raised the invoice. I had an air conditioner that wasn't working. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I called and they assigned me to a provider that never called back to make an appointment. They did call once but they didn't leave a message. I just saw the number there so I called and called and left messages to get an appointment but I never got anything back. Also, I filed a claim online but the process was a bit confusing as they gave you different options. My unit wasn't working and I didn't know if it was the air-conditioning or the duct. They wanted me to know what was wrong but I didn't know so I chose air conditioning.
However, since I was not getting anything back from the provider, AHS assigned me to another provider. They told me the contractors were gonna call during the first 24-hours and I never got the callback. But because AHS provided me with the contact information, I called and scheduled the appointment. I’m upset about my plumbing claim with American Home Shield. I explained that it’s covered under my contract and also what had happened. It took them a couple of days to get somebody out. My water was shut off, so they did an emergency thing. They sent a company and a guy came and checked everything out. Then he said, “Okay. I see what I gotta do.” He said that he gotta go back and call American Home Shield and tell them to get him the estimate. When he came back, he had AHS on the line and they said I would have to pay for that myself. It wasn’t covered because I tried to repair it. I didn’t try to repair a thing, except for stuffing a rag in a hole to stop the water from coming out. I was just trying to stop it from leaking. Even as I turned the water off, it was still leaking water on my wooden deck.
I don’t know what he told AHS or what his perception was when he saw what he saw because the pipe was twisted. It was twisted when I turned the rest of the faucet to stop the leak. That pipe was in there since the house was built in 1977. And his thing was, “Well, pipes don’t break.” And I said, “Man, anything can break.” I said, “Don’t tell me something can’t break. Anything can break down. Wear and tear will break anything down.”
When I tried to turn the faucet off, the faucet itself broke off. And when I tried to take the pliers to tighten it down to stop the water, the whole thing broke off. I explained that to everybody. However, I ended up having to spend $246 out of my pocket because AHS would not cover that. I was upset because I didn’t do anything nor did I try to fix anything. They’re still bugging me.
I was trying to call somebody yesterday to complain about that but they said that they had a backlog of calls so I have to wait. But the guy was okay. I just had problems with whatever happened between him and American Home Shield. It left me in the middle and caused me to pay. I was not pleased with the outcome. But that’s really the only thing that I’ve really had a problem with AHS because anytime I’ve had any kind of issues at my home, they’ve always sent somebody out. The people who come out are always nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. They repaired my problem. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend.
But with my air conditioning claim, the tech had to replace the cooling coil and AHS was gonna pay for that. But the company said it was gonna cost me $600 for the Freon because they were gonna take 11 pounds of Freon. I'm not gonna pay that. I work here on the air base and I know plenty of HVAC guys here who can come out and fill that thing up for less than $600. But according to them, AHS won’t allow it. I said that they could put the part in, but I won’t need them to fill it up with Freon. That situation has not even been solved yet. The part hasn’t been ordered and when the lady called me back one more time asking what I was gonna do, I said that I’ve already told them what I’m gonna do. I’m not gonna give them $600 to fill in their Freon. I’m stuck because if they got the part, they’re gonna have to put the part in and they have to do the Freon.
We have been getting great service in the beginning until these just two recent incidents upset me because we’re paying for this stuff. And before I called in any work order, I read what’s covered and what’s not covered, and everything I called in was supposed to be covered. But they didn’t cover and they didn’t follow through on these. They strayed away from what we pay for. And on top of this, they gave me a list of people that I couldn’t use for my plumbing work, but the guy who came out who did the plumbing was connected with one of the companies that they had told me I couldn’t use.

I usually call AHS when I have to file a claim and let them know the problem and then they’d get somebody out there to me within 24 hours, depends on the severity of the claim. And then I just pay a $75 fee. They’re very professional, very nice and helpful. But when my spa wasn’t coming on and my chlorinator went out, apparently it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. I didn’t know because it said all pool equipment was covered. So I had to do away from my chlorinator and ended up just going to straight chlorine.
I’m not real impressed with the work of this one particular contractor, the Texas Pool Guy, because I don’t think they normally fix the problem. If they make a mistake, they’ll want me to put another claim in to fix a different problem so I’m not too happy with that. If you come out there and file the issue and I put a claim in the first time, I shouldn’t have to go back and pay another $75 just to fix this particular problem. And I did that two times. At the moment, we have to turn it on and off with the screwdriver every time we use it. We submitted an online claim with AHS. It was easy navigating the site. Within the day, the contractor called and due to our schedule, it was a few days before he could come out. Another issue was that in the casita, the water in the shower is coming out warm and not hot. He was arguing that it was all a problem with the water heater and that the water heater needed to be drained and new water put in.
Everything is still as it was. I received a call from AHS on Monday that the casita was not covered under the plan. And as far as our master shower, evidently the contractor needed access into the wall and it was gonna cost $600 to $800 to get access into the wall for the small piece that was covered by AHS. The work has not been finished and I’ve gotta call AHS to get clarifications. We’ve had several claims with them and a few of them, we were able to take care of. That's how it has worked, and everyone has been very professional and courteous. I have had great experiences with the people American Home Shield has sent out except for the last one. It was absolutely horrific.
These guys put a spring for my garage on the back burner for two weeks and they did not keep me updated. Whenever I called in, all the guy did was complain that he had to work today and that he wanted to go home. It was ridiculous. I was going out of town for a week and they were supposed to come while I was gone. My wife was waiting for them to come and get it fixed. But I got home from being out of town and I called them to ask for my spring. When the repair guy finally came, it was on the Thursday of that week which was almost a full week later, and he didn't have my spring. He said that he would have to get it made in the morning. So they didn't even have to special order the thing. He went down to the store where they built springs and had it made. It took an hour and a half, and these guys left me hanging for two freaking weeks to do that.
I was expecting American Home Shield to call me to address this since American Home Shield asks me to rate my experience. But I can't communicate with somebody when something happens and goes wrong. I sent an email through the chat box on American Home Shield's website since that was the only place I could talk to somebody. The lady I talked to said she would document it but she said I would have to put it in writing in a letter. As good as American Home Shield is, they're living in the dark ages and that blew me away. The only way I can send in a complaint and let American Home Shield know that a company sucks is apparently through a physically written letter. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Recently my air flow was diminished, so I paid my deductible and American Home Shield sent someone out. The tech told me it was my air filter, so he changed it. I noticed later on that there was water in the area of my air conditioner, so I called back the next day. AHS tried to make me pay the deductible again, but I was like, “No. This is the same issue because there was no water when you came.” So, they waived the deductible the second time and sent the tech back out. He said, “It’s your drain pipe,” which is in the sink that’s in my basement. So, he said he cleared it out but when he left, it was still leaking.
I called American Home Shield again, which is the third time, and they said that they were gonna send the tech out again. But at that point, I said I wanted a different company to come out because he'd already been out twice. They said they couldn’t do that because if the tech caused the problem, it’s the same company that has to fix it but someone different would come out. But sure enough, the same exact guy came out the third time. This time he told me it was my coil and that AHS only pays for the coil but doesn't pay for order modifications that need to be done, which is $3,000 that I would have to pay. So, I talked to American Home Shield and told them, “It’s strange that the first few times it was very minor. Now you’re telling me I have to pay $3,000 because you don’t cover order modifications.”
I told the rep I wanted a second opinion, and she said I couldn’t do that but they could now send out somebody to give me a second opinion and then waive the deductible. They sent the next company out and the new tech said he cleaned the trap in the drain pipe. Because my carpet back there was wet, I had put a fan down there. When he left, I looked to see if it was still dripping, and I noticed that the water wasn’t at the AC. It was coming from the sink where the drain pipe goes into, but it was almost over reaching to the AC. So, I said, “That’s strange. If the AC unit was leaking, the water would be coming from here.” So, I went over to the sink and looked underneath, and it’s the pipe underneath the sink where the water drains into that was filled out and leaking. So, the previous tech would’ve had me pay over $3,000 when it wasn’t even the air conditioner the whole time.
I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out to fix the pipe. I had to pay the deductible, which I understood because now we’re talking about plumbing when it’s completely different than the air conditioner. Now the pipe is fixed and I have no more problems. Overall I really like American Home Shield's customer service, but the people that they used were horrible.

We've been longtime American Home Shield people and we've always used them for every house that we've ever had. I filed a claim with them on a Friday evening and it went great. The contractor did a great job and the AC has been fine.
The biggest problem these days is that people don't know what they're doing and customer service sucks. I have to call back four or five times to get something done. But, with American Home Shield, everything has been simple. Rating them against industry standards for customer service would probably get them a high mark. American Home Shield should put it out there that they have a great service, great policies and that they do their job. They need to make people understand how they work especially those who do not how to use their service. That would cut down on the calls they get from people who get their problems fixed and complain that AHS is not paying for it. Overall, AHS hasn't made me unhappy. It was a Friday when I called and he said the contractor would get back to me on Monday and tell me when they could come. I had a couple more questions and he told me he had put the request through for me so I might hear from the contractor that same day. Within a few minutes, a guy called and asked when I wanted them to come. The guy who came out was fine and he certainly knew a lot more about garage doors than I do.
I would recommend AHS. They were very professional. I own a home in Connecticut and I just moved here about a year ago. Everybody said I need to get one of those home warranty insurance things because I'm moving into a house that someone else had lived in and you don't know what's gonna work and what's gonna break. The real estate agent tells me that she recommends American Home Shield to all of her clients and everybody seems to think that it's one of the best of all those home warranty places.

The drain in the faucet was leaking bad so I submitted a claim over the phone. It was my first time ever using American Home Shield and they were excellent. They called me back, emailed me, texted me and kept me up on what was going on and when those issues would be there. They were on time as well. I submitted the claim on Tuesday and they came over on Thursday. The techs who came over were very clean and they did an excellent job. They diagnosed the problems and solved what was wrong. Also, they told me to give them a few minutes and they were able to get it through in probably 30 to 40 minutes. They told me that if I had any problems, give them a call back. When they had to come back the second time, I called them and they sent a guy the next day. After the repair, the drain has been wonderful.

I have joined with American Shield almost a month and have not received a copy of coverage via email nor postal mail; but did pay the first month fee. When will I receive copy of coverage? I had spoken to a young lady and she stated she would send a copy via email and postal mail, no copies received. Could someone please look into this matter? Thank you.
Good morning Denise,
I understand your concerns with the delay in receiving your American Home Shield contract. I would be glad to speak with you and help get a copy of your contract to you.

I am very disappointed with the service today. I had a company out to check why my garage door opener why it would not open and shut and was advised that I need a new motor. I called them yesterday and they came out this morning. I called American Home Shield and asked if they could do the work and they said no that they were not under American Home Shield. I then asked if I could pay them and send the bill to American Home Shield and was told no. I then set up an appt. with another company, but they cannot come out until Monday, this is Thursday and now American Home Shield tells me that I could have had it done and send them the bill. Now I have to have my car out until at least Monday. Employee's not very well informed on policies. In all the years I have had American Home Shield, I believe this is only the 2nd time I have ever put in a claim. Very disappointed.
Good morning Ms. Reber,
I understand your concerns with the repairs that need to be completed on your garage door opener in a reasonable amount of time. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

I would like to be able to contact AHS by phone and be able to talk to a HUMAN person and not a machine, since I have to change the air conditioning (the compressor). The hiring company that AHS chose does not seem like a serious company, because the budget what they gave us is more than double than other companies. I would like to know what the procedure is like if we want to change the contractor or if the AHS pays the insured amount to us and we hire another company to change the compressor. I've already try to contact AHS by phone or email and I always receive a machine answer or an automatic response email.
Hello, Corina. We understand your concerns regarding the service contractor and will have a Social Media Specialist contact you about the service request.

We had a washing machine leak in our new to us home. The previous homeowner had purchased the policy for us when we purchased the home. There were no local repair person that would come but American Home Shield did get an out of town person to come. Repair was completed perfectly and the total repair less the fee required was covered.
Fast forward a few months and the major cast iron pipe in the basement plumbing line began to leak. It was the last remaining cast iron in this 1920 house. Again AHS couldn't find anyone to do the repair but asked us to find and pay a person after they submitted an invoice. All went extremely smoothly and the repair is perfect !! We were completely reimbursed by AHS without any difficulty. We are now faced with our two 22 yr old a/c units that are failing. We in the process of initial consults with AHS and setting up appts. etc. We expect it to go as smoothly as all the other repairs/replacements have done. THANK YOU AHS for incredible home warranty service.

I have been a customer with American Home Shield for approximately a year. I called and reported that my A/C was not working at the end of April and they sent out Beaches Heating and Air. When they came out the first time the tech said it was a fan that was broken and left to get a replacement. He came back and put that in but that did not fix the problem. The next time they came back they said it was the heat pump and compressor. So I had to wait for the part to be ordered and had to pay for Freon. I paid the amount the tech told me that the Freon cost when he came back to install the compressor. Not one week later the A/C stopped working again and I called to have the issues resolved. AHS sent Beaches Heating and Air out again, technician Rocky. He then proceeds to tell me that the coil had a leak and he sprayed something comparable to "fix a flat" to stop the leaks and put more Freon in, no charge this time.
Well that did not fix it because again within a week I had to call them again. Meanwhile I have been calling AHS, complaining that this company was not fixing the problem with the A/C, the answer I received is that if they don't fix it this time will send another company out to fix it. The last time Beaches came out again it was Rocky, he tells me that their company cannot fix the A/C coil leak problem, they were not qualified to work on the type of AC I have. After several trips out to my house and the same technician every time he tells me this! So I call AHS to inform them the next day, then they try to make me pay another 100 in deductible because the way Beaches explained the problem to them. I refused and talked to another representative that said I did not have to pay another deductible and she also agreed that I would not have to pay for more Freon since what Beaches did not fix the problem.
AHS sent out Total Air Care out on June 29, this technician told me that the Beaches technician took everything apart in the AC unit and left it loose, and that there is another part that needed to be replaced that Beaches never even took the time to diagnose. Total Air Care was to get back in touch with AHS and they would let me know when I could expect my AC to be fixed or repaired. Well surprise. I haven't heard from AHS and every time I call them I get the runaround. I want my AC fixed without any cost to me because it is not my fault that AHS sent out an incompetent company the first time. And every time I call AHS I am told that I am not allowed to speak to a supervisor.
Hello, Laura. We regret to hear of the issues you have been having with getting your service request resolved. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to further assist.

I had been with American Home Shield for quite a few years before and then this time, I've had them on a rental property for about four months. I submitted a claim online when the AC went down and it went well. I was notified that they were gonna tell one of the providers and then United Air Temp went to the property. The guy fixed the issue and as a customer, that was what I wanted. There was only one thing that I didn’t like. He never talked to the tenants to see what caused the problem.
My tenant said that he just came in and said he was there to fix the unit. That was it, which was was no big thing except I got a call from the company saying that apparently, the technician recommended a new system for more efficiency. But my system is about five years old. So that may have just been something that they were trying to push. There hasn’t been any issues since the technician came out and overall, I’m satisfied. It was a great experience. I’m happy with American Home Shield and I’d recommend them.

We ordered an air conditioning repair from American Home Shield. I prefer submitting claims with them by phone since I can’t specifically let them know what’s going on when doing it online. My father lives with me. And when I told them, the AHS representative set the appointment the next day. Then I told her to set that appointment, but I also asked if I could talk to a supervisor to see if they could get somebody sooner. When she got the supervisor on, he extended it for another day because he said the space that I wanted was already taken.
When AHS sent the number of the company that was coming, I told that company the issue and they kept the Sunday appointment rather than the Monday that was given to me. They also told me that they had all sorts of opening. The contractor who came out was good. He determined that the unit needed Freon, but we ended up paying the most of it. My sister had the same thing happen with her AC, but her warranty provider took care of it and she didn't have to pay.

I noticed my AC unit outside had a loud noise and it stopped working sounding like it was gonna blow up. I went online to file a claim and after I set the claim, it asked me if I was to pay now or later and I pressed “later” when I should have pressed now so I called the rep. I told the rep I got confused with what I did and she explained the process to me. She told me that she could change it for me. The contractors called before they came and they arrived on the estimated time. They had great customer service. When they came, they went upstairs to the attic first and said that the issue was definitely outside. The guys went outside and did an analysis. They came back and explained everything that was going on. They told me that something was needed to be cleaned and some doohickeys were needed to be changed. They told me to give them an hour and they’ll have the AC back on.
Other people always have problems with their home warranties, but when I put two claims in back-to-back, I never had an issue with anything with AHS. So, when I submitted my claim online the second time for my washing machine, I knew what I was doing because it was explained to me better than just reading it. With AHS, they send people out to do an analysis of what is seen or heard. Their people always fix it and they never tried to sell me a $7,500 unit unlike what happened to my friend who ended up buying a whole new unit because she didn’t have AHS and she didn’t understand what was said.

I got a text message saying the name and contact information of the contractor that would be out here. Their technicians showed up and found the suspected problem. They did some calling to see if it was covered or not because there was a hose that was failing and whether it will be covered or not was questionable. Eventually, they found out it was covered and they put a new hose in. That fixed the problem and everything has been working fine since. I'd recommend AHS.

We noticed a significant build-up of water in our carpet next to the A/C unit which flooded our carpet and our wall. We figured it was coming from the A/C unit but we didn't know why. We thought it was broken and it was struggling to keep the air temperature down when it was 100 degrees out. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online at first but then something happened with the timeline and so I tried to do an outside authorization. I ended up calling thereafter and filing a whole new claim.
Also, we were a bit frustrated as it felt like the technician wasn't very thorough when they were looking at our claim initially. But then I didn't think it was AHS' fault. It seemed like a specific contractor issue. When they came out again and we pressed them a bit, their technicians looked at our problem closely and figured out the problem.
AHS has also been really helpful with paying for things. We had an issue where the technicians were gonna make modifications to our A/C unit and they were gonna charge us because that wasn't covered in the warranty. I told technicians that I didn't want the modification at all because it wasn't a repair and I didn't want to pay for it. AHS on our behalf was able to make a call to the technicians and told them that we didn't want to do that for the A/C. That was very helpful and I've enjoyed my experience working with AHS.

On both cases, I've actually had to call the company after 48 hours because they didn't initiate contact like the email said. Nonetheless, a technician came out, took a look at my dishwasher that wasn't working properly, and had to order a part. Then he had to come back and install the part. The other service call was for the garage door opener. Overall, American Home Shield did good and once I got the service companies on the phone, they both have worked with my schedule in setting up the appointments. I submit my claims over the phone with American Home Shield and all of their representatives have been helpful. I wanna talk to representatives for the most part to make sure that my claims go through rather than me doing it by myself. And I normally go through Stacie and when I did my claim on my AC, she was able to help me get things pushed forward so I would be able to get my AC assisted with. But I would not recommend their contractor, 24/7 America Air Conditioning.
24/7 told me that they were gonna be at my house at a certain time, but they were not. They said there was something wrong with their tire, and they did not show up on time. And then they wanna charge me for Freon. They said they did the manufacturing transition and the receipt says Freon. They weren’t even supposed to charge me for the Freon and they didn’t even do a manufacturing transition. They were just trying to take advantage of me not thinking that I knew what I was being charged for. They ended up having to reimburse me for my $110, but they were horrible. Also, they had me going back and forth. They told me I needed to call AHS because they would order the parts. I called AHS and they said I needed to call 24/7 because they were the ones who had the part.
I had to call 24/7 back, and I could not get a straight answer with them. They were the worst. When they first came over, they told me nothing was wrong. They just put Freon on there and charged me. And then I kept my AC on for two days and the Freon leaked out. The first person was not able to tell me that there was a leak that was why I didn’t have Freon. So they wasted my time and money. And it was the beginning of summer, and it was hot in the house. They could do nothing for me. So it was a horrible experience with them. But other than that, AHS has always been great to me and able to help me out with whatever I requested for.

The shower in our master bedroom has two hot and cold faucets to activate the water going through the showerhead. And in one of those faucets, there was a leak. My wife called American Home Shield and it took about a week for a contractor to come out. The guy looked at the issue, what it was, got his stuff out of his truck, and fixed it. He also fixed the stoppage in one of the sinks in the same bathroom and in the kitchen. He handled all that. He had to come back one time because one thing didn’t hold but the service was good.
The only thing was that it took a while. I’m sure AHS' contractors serve all their private customers first before they get around to the warranty customers. The downside of a warranty is that they're always getting the lowest quality contractors. The contractors are not making much money from AHS, so the service is always adequate. But the contractors always first introduce themselves. They know why they came, and we know why they're here. And having a home warranty is worth it if you do not have the time or the ability to do home repairs by yourself.

I had an issue with my dishwasher. I filed a claim with AHS online and the process was very easy and simple. Then, the first tech came out three times and tried a couple of things, but he couldn't figure out the issue. He was not very knowledgeable of that particular appliance and rather than saying it was not repairable, he told AHS that he couldn't do it but it was repairable, which was confusing. AHS had to send somebody else and that other person said that the dishwasher was not repairable. After it was decided that the dishwasher would be replaced, it was easy. But it ended up costing them more because they changed several parts in the dishwasher that they ended up throwing in the trash. Besides that, I had another claim with AHS that went very smoothly. The tech came out, said there was no part, then took care of the problem right away.
I am an agent and I have recommended AHS to at least 25 of my clients. But I don't know if I will do that again. The overall experience was good but there were some things that didn't make a lot of common sense. They need to make sure that the language they use makes sense because you can't say that something's not repairable but the customer's gonna get somebody to work on it several more times.

There is usually a little bit of a wait time when I call American Home Shield and some of their contractors aren’t very good. We’ve had some issues with a few of them. When we hired somebody to do our own AC, we found that the guy was trying to upcharge for items. Also, my son and I have medical issues, so if our AC or something that affects the thermostat in the house has a problem, it can cause more issues. I have to have somebody come out quickly to resolve them. But it takes them quite a while to get here and then they give you a quote and end up taking forever to get some of the stuff done.
At one point, we were displaced from our house for almost two weeks. We were waiting on a part that was literally was in the same city that I lived in and I could have gone and picked up myself because they ordered it from a different place. We have asked AHS to block people from coming back to our house again, but they still get sent out anyway. The last contractor that was out here was very nice and quick to come out. But we’ve had more bad contractors than good ones.
Other than that, I would still recommend American Home Shield. It saves a lot of money for homeowners that have major repairs, especially when things are a little bit tighter and it’s harder to come up with a bunch of money to fix a whole unit. But instead of replacing things, they replace little pieces of things until it finally gives out completely. It’s a constant Band-Aid repair.

I put a remote at the ceiling fan and the lights. The wall switch that is wired to the outlet, controls the outlet and for whatever reason, it was also controlling the fan. Also, when I plug something into the outlet and use it, it would fry them. We plugged the vacuum into the light switch and that made a blow. I used the ahs.com website to submit the claim and I got automatic notifications of the company that I could expect to hear from to schedule the appointment to come and look at it. My wife was gonna be home when they could come, so they suggested a service window. The contractor came and he was very professional and courteous. The issue was supposed to have been fixed through a warranty, but the issue kept happening.
When the issue was finally resolved, my wife wanted to test it. She said that the technician felt like he might have been insulted by questioning whether he did the job appropriately. We have had the background of having to have the issue fixed multiple times, so he might have gotten the idea that we didn't trust him to do the work. But it was a kinda funny like light-hearted thing. And everything’s fine. Now, we have a different kind of switch on the wall and it's finally fixed. The fan controls on the fan itself. The light seems to take a little extra time to come on, but that maybe because of some interaction with fluorescence. It was in 2005 when I bought the place where AHS came with it and I simply kept it going. We've had several occasions to use the service and having the convenience of a single company to call when things happen has provided enough value for me to keep the contract going. I've recommended AHS to people too.
