I prefer submitting a claim with American Home Shield online. It was fairly straightforward and easy to do when the thermostat on the boiler wasn’t working. I just submitted, "I need some help with a boiler issue." Then my wife was there when the technician came and fixed it. The time between contact and for mediation took a week. But I now have hot water and I'm overall satisfied with the work.

I had two issues going at the same time. It took a long time to get somebody from AHS on the phone. But the contractor who came out was very nice. However, it took him three trips to do the repair of my refrigerator/ice maker. First was when he told me I needed to replace the water filter and that would make the ice work. I said, "No, it won’t." I bought a new filter and it did not. And then he came out again, reset it and he finally ordered it for a third time. So it was a lot of back and forth. But things has been fine since he replaced it.
Good morning Christian,
I would like to thank you for the feedback regarding your most recent experience to have the refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve any remaining concerns.

I like my experience with American Home Shield and submitting a claim to them for an air conditioning issue was fairly easy. But we were in an urgent situation ‘cause it was an air conditioning issue. And my dad, who is an elderly gentleman, lives with us and is a recovering cancer patient. It was a 100-degree weather and the service company took a long time but they were okay. And when I spoke with AHS, I felt good that they tried to help. Since the repair, the AC is working fine.

In the beginning, American Home Shield was not too good. They had contacts that were awful, the ones who came to do the work didn’t have the right tools, and I had to call somebody else to do the work. But now, AHS has gotten better. They cleaned up their act and I've been happy with them. I recently submitted a claim for a plumbing issue at my main property in Holland, Ohio and they took care of it. Like anything else, I had to wait for the tech from T & J Rooter Services to show up in X amount of days. They let me know when they were gonna be able to go there then I had to meet them out there. They gave me a window from 8-12 or from 2-4 and the scheduling was an inconvenience. But other than that, I was satisfied with my experience with AHS.

I spoke to an American Home Shield rep who was very helpful as far as the issue that I had with the air conditioning unit that wasn't getting cool. And with me calling in, I was able to get the name of the person instead of them just giving me someone else that I wasn't familiar with. I told the rep about the ones who had worked on my heater and I would prefer working with them because they were professional and courteous. I told her I preferred that because I don't like to be put in certain situations, and she did everything to make sure I can get back with that company.
When the contractor came out, he showed me basically everything. Unlike how some of them run back there, he didn't try and say, “That isn't the issue” or something like that. It was a step-by-step process of coming into our home, being respectful of our property and not walking in our house without having stuff on their feet. He made sure that I knew what was going on and also allowed me to be there to see the things that was taking place. Since the repair, the AC so far is good. They asked me to watch it and inform them if something else was going on, and to give them or American Home Shield a call just to keep them updated on everything that's going on. Also, the last time I got in with American Home Shield was a very lengthy time to get in with customer service. I set it up on the computer, but that's not personable for me. Still, I have recommended them to other people.

American Home Shield sent a company out when my garbage disposal quit working. The technicians were on time and courteous. They did the reset button, cleaned it out, and it started working. And we haven't had any more problems out of it since. I would recommend AHS.

The shower wasn’t draining so we filed a claim to American Home Shield. We did it online and the process was smooth. My husband said that the contractor from DMB Plumbing was nice. He was quick, to the point and very polite. And the plumber said to call him back if there are any more issues. Since they’ve come out, everything has been working well. We’ve been with AHS since January and we've had a really good experience with them.

I filed for a claim over the phone with American Home Shield and they sent me a plumber because we didn’t know if the issue was the pipe or washing machine. But the contractor screwed me because he came in and didn't even check the washing machine. Instead, he looked at the drain pipe in the floor and said it was the drain pipe. He told me I needed to cut a whole on my downstairs ceiling in order to replace the pipe which ended up in a $1,100 homeowner's insurance claim. They had four people come out before the issue with the washing machine was resolved.

I had an AC issue and gave American Home Shield my deductible ahead of time. I told them that they just sent somebody to my house 10 months ago to put a new unit in but they didn’t re-dispatch that contractor. So instead of being a recheck, I paid the service call. AHS sent another company out and on the first day, the tech told me I was low on Freon. How can it be low on Freon if they just charged it up? I didn’t use the AC because it had been the winter time. I’m responsible for Freon so I paid $200 in Freon and they put two pounds in there.
All of a sudden, four days later, it was hot again and we got a leak. AHS sent a guy out. The guy checked out the leak and said that it was the expansion valve. He had to wait for AHS for a day for authorization, which in Arizona, at 115 with no AC is not convenient. And half the time, they wanted to send the part so they get a better pricing so there was no sense of urgency. We got six kids and it was not easy. Then they sent me a company back out here to put the expansion valve in. But AHS tells me, “Oh by the way, the expansion valve on your house, they changed the design of it.” So this is where they get you and make up for the low labor that they pay the trade along with the part discount because they have to work and negotiate deals out. I’m in the car business so I get it.
So what happens is they get in there and tell me, “Okay. So your expansion valve needs special sheet metal and tin work done. It’s a different type of valve. But it’s for your compressor. They’ve updated it. They don’t have the old style anymore. So we’re gonna have to hit you for $350 for customization, a copper, a new brass line and all those insulation stuff.” I ended up paying another $500 to the contractor, Arizona Trade Masters.
I looked the job up and to repair the AC, it’s about a three-hour job. The guy was here for three hours so why am I paying the additional for it? American Home Shield was cheating the vendor at my expense and that was where the problem was. I’ve been told by AC companies that AHS gouge them at such a cheap rate that they have to make it up from the customer and I don’t appreciate that.
The same thing happened on my last AC when my compressor unit was put in. AHS only covered $10 a pound in Freon per the contract and they told the contractor to charge whatever they wanted. So instead of it being $10 a pound and covered, I paid $50 a pound. The contractor charged me $60 a pound and ended up getting $700 out of me because the compressor job is a bigger job. They had to make up more in labor. So it’s just a scam. AHS is a horrible company. They do whatever they can to save every dollar. I’ll be switching to either Balboa or a different one.

A plumber that American Home Shield sent was supposed to be here at 4 o'clock. I had an appointment so I had my mom waiting here. There was no call and he finally shows up at 6 o'clock, walks in the house and turns on my sink. My mom was like, "There's no water. Look." He said, "Well, I can't see what's the matter if no water is flowing out of it." She was like, "And why do you think you're here?" So she opens up underneath my sink and she goes, "There's where you need to be checking." He said, "Oh, well. We'll probably just gonna order a new faucet." My mom replied, "Okay. Well, how do you know that it's the faucet? You haven't done anything."
Needless to say they did order a faucet. And then it had been a week and I was like, "When are you guys gonna come and get my new faucet put in?" They said they hadn't even gotten that approved yet and they had to get it approved and then we had to get it ordered. I was like, "Ordered? Excuse me. You're a plumbing company. You have to order a faucet? I could go to Home Depot right now and get the exact same faucet." Finally after two weeks I got a faucet put in but it was a horrible service through them. It was a nightmare. This company that AHS uses needs to be dropped. They were worthless.
One time, my air conditioner went out and AHS sent out an air conditioner guy who comes out and fixes it. He then charges me 250 bucks for freon. I told him that it's covered. He told me that it's not covered and that AHS only pays $10 per unit of freon. So I had to come up with the $200 that I was not expecting. AHS didn't tell me that in the beginning and it was a little disappointing. What they told me was everything was covered. But calling AHS is great. I love them and they've always done their job. It's just that some of the contractors that they have doing their work are horrible.

I filed a claim for an air conditioning issue with American Home Shield over the phone. Everything seemed to go fine as far as getting the claim processed. The service and the interaction with the contractor seemed to be fine but it took a little time to get the problem resolved. It took several trips out to diagnose the problem and when the contractors found out it was a coil, it took about a week and half to get it ordered. But once we got it done, we got the air conditioning fixed. We have two units so we were able to live downstairs, but it put stress on our downstairs unit. So I'm glad they got the coil in and got the AC fixed. I would recommend American Home Shield because we've used them before for other things and it seemed to work out fine.

It's not an emergency for me because my refrigerator is working except I need a towel underneath the door, but American Home Shield is supposed to call me to replace it and I haven’t got a call yet.

Our AC unit was not putting out cold air at all. I put in my claim on Thursday or Friday and the technician came that Monday so we had to suffer through the weekend. Originally, I called in but because the hold time was so long, I ended up filing a claim online and it went very well. I was pleased with how smooth the online process was. Air 72 called right back and we secured the appointment. The technician who came out was awesome. He came right on in, apologized because he felt how hot it all looked, and he went right on to work. He took care of the issue in record time, in my opinion. Overall, I had an awesome experience. At first, I was leery because I had read some reviews online and there were negative comments. I said, “Well, I try not to judge a book by its cover. I believe in giving everybody a chance.” I don’t foresee we’ll have any issue which this experience helped me to feel.

Something was wrong with the handle of my water spigot and every time I turn the water on, it would flow. So I called American Home Shield to file a claim and my interaction with the claims rep was good. But sometimes I end up getting somebody who's not from the US. The guy can’t comprehend and they repeat what I'm saying and that drives me crazy. But the contractors that they always send from Home Services are very nice. I still had a warranty on the handle and they sent me a new one. And all the plumber did was put it on. Since the repair, the water spigot has been wonderful and I don’t have to worry about my water hose thing shooting off every time I turn the water on.

He came in, told us what was wrong, and switched it out for us. It was in one appointment and it has been working ever since. The said tech supposedly ordered the motor on Monday to be delivered overnight. Now they say it will be Friday. I called & asked if they could send another tech and was told that was the only tech they have. We live 30 miles from Nashville. I'm not buying it! Not to mention the total lack of human compassion.

I have found 4 different contact numbers for this company which is the start of my problem. I purchased the warranty in February to cover all the appliances within my home. When I called to request service to my fridge a tech was sent out and I thought it was repaired. To my dismay it is in fact NOT repair and is now leaking water on the hardwood floor in my kitchen. When I called the service number, yet another number, I was told by Chasity #** (that is the number she gave), the next available was a week away. I am sorry, but, this is an emergency as there is water leaking. So when I asked to speak to a supervisor, Chasity says there is NO supervisor available.
I asked to wait for one to become available, and she further stated that there were in fact no supervisors and that she works by herself. I found this practice to be odd, and ask if I could fill out a quality assurance survey. Apparently, those are not available either. I need an emergency call, to fix my refrigerator so no more damage is done to my kitchen. I guess I will have to go the BBB route and hope it doesn’t take too long.
Good morning Kimberly,
I understand your concerns with the appliance service claims that you have placed and the delay in service to have each one completed. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

AHS sent a company, Carolina Air Inc., to fix our A/C. They said we were low on Freon and put in 4 pounds for which they charged us $556.00. I have called other A/C companies, including the one I requested for the service, and they all charged from $90/pound to $105 pound. Why was the company sent by AHS charging $149? As it turns out, after also paying my AHS service charge, this whole episode cost $636. If I had just called the company I requested privately, it would have cost $360. There is something very wrong with this picture.

I’ve had a number of experiences with American Home Shield. Some have been good and some have been bad. My last one was with Hutchinson Pools and it was very good. The heater in my pool was readily handled. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and it was uncomplicated. More recently, I requested Hutchinson Pools again because they had been out to my house once before and they were good. Before I called, I had lots of problems and the people AHS sent out were totally not professional. They didn’t show up, didn’t call and it was an ongoing thing. I asked if I could get Hutchinson and they were able to get them out. They worked with me this time.
However, my most frustrating experience was with Royal Heat and Air a few years ago when I had to replace one of my units and AHS covered hardly anything with the air conditioner that cost me $8,000 and then, this time again, $12,000. I’ve been paying American Home Shield for 15 years and I probably paid for whatever I’ve done. My last experience was totally the best, although I had some bad experiences a few years ago and had some absolutely horrible people in the past. I had a company that maintains my pool on a weekly basis. The guy would not listen to the comments or discuss anything with us and they were saying that I need a new meter and that my meter’s not right. They will use any reason they can to get out of a situation.

American Home Shield sent somebody out to check the AC that tripped a breaker. The guy looked at me like I was an idiot, flipped the breaker. His appointment was scheduled for 5:00 and he showed up at 8:30 at night. He was just there for five minutes and left. Four weeks later, it turned out it was a capacitor. They sent out a different guy and the parts were available at that time so he was able to fix the AC. However, AHS was very vague whether or not they would charge me. They said that they can’t tell me whether or not I was gonna be charged until after they decide if it was the same issue. They also said that the first technician who came out here was new and that he just didn’t know. So, it wasn’t exactly the best experience.
My interactions with the American Home Shield reps were terrible. I called my agent and told him to never use American Home Shield again. There was only one time that I got a particular rep and a direct number. There have been times where it was an hour and a half wait just to get somebody to pick up. My experience submitting claims with American Home Shield on the website has been fine, although I will oftentimes have a little difficulty with it because I don’t have an app where I try to get it. I end up having to go to my old email to find the email that they have sent to try to get on how to contact them. I would suggest that they have an easier means for me to contact them. Recently the door on the microwave, which is the glass front, was coming loose so we stopped using the unit. The guy from Sears came out, but the issue is still unresolved because they said it needed to have another door and that they would try to find another one. But no one has called me back at all. They said they didn’t know when they could find it or not. The microwave and the oven are one unit together and it's built-in in the wall, so if they don’t get that fixed, it makes my kitchen messed up.
Some of the other technicians that AHS has sent out have been so much on it until I was totally relaxed and confident that it was gonna get taken care of. However, I wasn’t impressed with the technician that recently came out. He was expecting something different and seemed to be a bit befuddled because it was a glass front microwave. The glass door is still sitting off to the side and we still have no microwave. He told us that we could use it without the door on it. I said that wasn't a safe thing to do and it didn't make any sense to tell somebody to do that. We've had a number of service calls that we've needed in the past few months and this is the first one that I was not impressed with how it turned out, especially it being serious. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is a valuable service and I've recommended them. I just wish that it was more inclusive with other parts of the home.

My washing machine is making sounds like there are sneakers inside of the washing machine. When the clothes are being washed and I’m sleeping and then I hear that noise, it scares me. It’s like somebody is breaking into my house. The technician that American Home Shield sent ran a couple of cycles and nothing happened, but as soon as he left, my wife came home, threw some clothes in there and it did the same thing. So that in itself was a little annoying.
He mentioned that the washer might be unbalanced and that we needed to move the clothes around. He was saying that the machine would stop and allow us to open it and correct that but not with the type of system that we have here. The tech was just here the other day and he recommended that we call somebody else and get a second opinion because the problem was not fixed. We asked him if we would be charged again for something that wasn’t repaired and he said that it would be up to AHS.
Another issue we had was with our air conditioner. We were in the house for almost a week without air. The contractor came out several times and his final report was that we had the wrong system in the house. He said that because we have a two-story home, we were required to have five tons, but we have four tons. We had to have the repair redone but AHS said that they wouldn’t cover it because we had the wrong system. But I went to get another opinion and they said that I have the right system in my house. The contractor that AHS sent out when my air conditioning unit wasn’t cooling was confident and very efficient. He was trying to find the problem because it was obviously not cooling and he inspected everything. He told us what was going on and it turned out it was the weather and not the air conditioning. It was 98 degrees outside and high humidity just overwhelmed the system. He did a very nice job of inspecting and we’ve got the air conditioner under control now.
Having a home warranty is a relatively high monthly payment but it’s worth it and I’ve been trying to get my sons to get one too. When the contractor got here, he was very professional and he did something that fixed the refrigerator temporarily. But in four days, it broke again. There was an issue with the AC. The compressor would come up, the fan would run, and everything else would work except the AC wouldn't cool on the top floor in the house. At the time, my tenants were saying that they had a sick daughter, so it was an urgency that we get somebody out there to get the AC fixed. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and I was heavily disappointed with my experience with them.
Initially, Royal AC came out and said that our refrigerant was low and that we needed to fill it up. So we filled it out and AHS only covered $10 an ounce. I had to pay $250 plus the service fee of the technician that serviced it out of my own pocket. So that was about $125 plus $250 and the tax came out to be 500 bucks, give or take. Tow days later, the AC went out but AHS said that Royal AC would not come out for the rest of the week as they were booked. So they sent out somebody else and I didn't have to pay them.
However, the second contractor said the same thing, which was that they had to get the master technician out because there was a leak and they needed to detect the leak. I told them that we already knew that there was a leak and that they needed to get somebody out there to fix it. Then they said that they were a new air conditioning company for AHS, that was not how they worked, and AHS would have to get somebody else out. So, someone else came out. But they also said that they needed to fix the leak. At first, they said that they were gonna send it out to AHS for observation and after that, they should be able to fix it. I asked how long that would take and they said that in two or three days, AHS should be able to call me back. It was already two weeks out when this process had happened and my tenants and I were not so happy.
Then, AHS came back and said that they don't cover that particular part of my air conditioning system. They also said that in Chapter Five, Section E of my Agreement, they don't cover this particular tubing that takes the coolant from the compressor to the air conditioning system upstairs. I told them that I didn't buy, pick and choose parts on the things that I wanted to be covered or not, I bought the whole policy. But they said that I should have read the policy. In the end, I got everything fixed myself and had to pay for it.

I filed a claim for my pool with American Home Shield over the phone and talking to the rep was fine. I was worried that the water was gonna turn green before somebody came out, but that didn't happen. White Water Pools came and did the installation very quickly. The installer seemed to know his work and he got the business and took care of things. Since then, the pumps have been working fine. However, I filed a claim about four months ago for some electrical work and there was one item that the contractor couldn’t repair. I have some of those long lights which would come on and off and would sometimes take a while to do that. The company said that American Home Shield wouldn’t repair them until they completely went out so I wasn’t really happy with that.
Also, there’s still a project that I requested from American Home Shield that hasn’t been taken care of. I was told that two of my bathroom exhaust fans would be repaired or replaced. But the electrical company that came said it would take them about two months to get that part. Two months came, but nothing was done. I called American Home Shield again and told them that nobody has ever come out. The representative said that they would get in touch with the company and if they didn’t call me back or they didn’t call American Home Shield within 48 hours, they would request a different contractor. It’s been over 10 days since I called and nothing. I also called for four items and there were little details why American Home Shield wouldn’t approve them. I’ve got a ceiling fan that wobbles and it looks like it’s ready to come down and there were some reasons that they won’t repair that. I’m considering some other insurance company.

A storm came through and it shorted my house. The power came back on by 7 PM that night, but it was like someone was turning the light switch on and off. The next day, I woke up and I noticed that it was warm. I ended up calling American Home Shield at 11:30 in the morning and their response was great. The AC was then fixed by 5:00 PM the following day. Apparently, the capacitor blew out. It could be complicated to get an air conditioner fixed at this time of the year but luckily I have AHS. I've told everyone who's buying a house to get their warranty.

When something was connected wrongly with our cooling unit, we assumed something burned out and we didn’t have air conditioning for a week. American Home Shield lined someone up and then the contractor called 30 minutes before they came. The contractor that came out was helpful and we’re thankful that they were able to come and fix it. We paid American Home Shield $75 for the service and we didn’t have to pay the person who came. But there was one time that a plumber contractor wasn't very helpful and they just did the minimum. I mentioned it to AHS and we haven’t had that same one come.

The same guy, Clint, came both times for the AC. He was pretty cool and my husband had a good connection with him.

The fan in one of the bathrooms was making a horrible noise and sounded like it was gonna explode. I called AHS and spoke to a representative because it was the first time and I wasn’t sure. The customer service I received was good, but the rep had a hard time understanding what I needed. She figured it out though and a contractor came. The electrician came a long way to get here and the time window he gave was open-ended but he stayed in contact with me to let me know he was coming. When he came in he said the fan had a loose part and fixed it quickly. The fan seems to be well fixed and I'm not hearing it spluttering like it’s gonna blow up or fall out anymore. He did great service while he was here, but his prices were really high when I asked him about doing some other work later. I questioned his integrity a little after that. I had the work done by a licensed contractor for half the price. But all in all, I’m satisfied with AHS.

A day before we moved into our new home, the washing machine failed and it ended up costing about $15,000 worth of damage to our house. And then we also had the refrigerator that went out at the same time. Even before we put foods in it, we realized it wasn’t cooling. We submitted our claims with American Home Shield online, and our experience was smooth and easy. We had to have the contractors for the washing machine come out a couple of times. It took a while for them to get the message through to American Home Shield that they were not going to be able to fix it. It really dragged the process out for like six weeks. And it was disappointing. Neither of the washing machine and the refrigerator was repaired so we ended up needing to replace both of them.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed in how unhelpful the people were when I would call to try to get more information or to figure out how to expedite the process. They refused to elevate my request to anyone else and they kind of blocked any questions I had. We were trying to hit a sale because we knew we were probably gonna have to replace the equipment even though the guy hadn't carried the message along. And we couldn’t even get quotes on what American Home Shield would offer for replacement so we ended up just going and buying and hoping that everything worked out right.
There was one time where I spoke to a woman on the phone and I got so mad that she ended up hanging up on me. She flat out refused to help pass the message along. She told me she was gonna have a manager call me back and I got no response. But the guy that I spoke with through the actual appliance repair for both pieces of equipment was topnotch. He remembered me and we had a great conversation. He was really helpful, so I had a very good experience.

Then he called me the next day or later that day to say that he might be able to get out there earlier and if that would be okay. I said yes to that and so he came out. He showed me what the issue was and what the capacitor was. He also explained a couple of other things to me and then he did the repair. It was quick and now everything's fine. The air conditioner went out on June 8th. The day after the initial call to AHS, the tech came out to say that we needed a new air conditioner. They said within 48 hours I would get a call saying that we had met whatever criteria, which I could understand. I was on vacation and when they called. They said I just needed to call the company. I said I didn't have a piece of paper and asked them to text or email me. They said I had to wait until I get home and I'll have to call them off the paper that the tech left me. It was part of the reason I had to wait a whole week.
When I had gotten home and I called the people who were gonna install the air conditioner and they said I didn't have to call them. American Home Shield had to order it and it takes seven to 10 days. It took almost 15 days. On the day that I found out, it was 110 and my house was unbearably hot. The gal says she could offer me $130 for the wall unit. My house is 4,600 square feet. A wall unit after three and a half weeks doesn’t do me any good. They're coming on Monday and that was a little insulting.
We didn’t get our replacement until July 3rd, a week ago Monday. AHS hired people on the opposite end of town to install the new air conditioning. So whenever they would come, it takes an hour plus to get here. The people who put the air conditioner in were very nice, but I didn’t get any warranty. I received no paperwork on it. I don’t know if there’s any warranty or anything. I tried calling the company back and they said that they would send me a link on my phone, but they haven’t. I’m happy to have an air conditioner, but there is no way I would ever re-up on the American Home Shield warranty or ever renew it.

American Home Shield eventually bought me a new refrigerator but it was a pain in the tail end.
Recently the water heater wasn't making any hot water so I filed a claim over the phone, and I was very pleased with the contractor. He was prompt and he showed up when he was supposed to. But it was within days of not having the air conditioning fixed when I had some problems with the washer. AHS first sent out an appliance person and he thought he had repaired it. He told me he put a part in it, but the problem continued. When he checked it again, he said I have to have a plumber. So, I got a plumber out.
The plumber came out and he said he was gonna have to do a return visit because he saw that he had to go on the roof. He couldn’t go on the roof without another person being with him as he came alone at that time. He discussed that he could get the job done, but he was gonna have to bring another individual the next day. And then he talked to me about money, but I have been told that I wouldn’t do any transaction with him and that I would only do money through the AHS business office. I told him that, but when he came back and had the individual with him, he requested payment. So, I called AHS to make sure that that was the case, that I wasn’t supposed to pay. I had an AC company that was originally fixing my AC five years ago and they had to constantly come out to re-fix the AC. But apparently, American Home Shield didn’t like their work because they got rid of them and got another company. So now, I have a different company. I made a call because the unit wasn’t cooling and this is the second time that I've had to have them come out. This has been a problem for some years now and I've stayed with American Home Shield because I believe in them and the people that they've sent out. But my question is always the same. How many service calls would it take to fix the AC compared to replacing it? No one could ever answer me. I’ve been having to pay the service charge of $75 over many years. I could’ve gone on and bought another AC.
When I call in, I make an appointment for whatever system that I have down then I wait until the actual tech comes out for me to meet him there. There’s no sense in me getting upset about the technician. They come out to do their job. I can’t get upset with the person on the phone either because they’re not the ones who's actually coming out to fix things. So I choose to not be upset with anybody. I just do what I have to do to keep things going.
I just want to keep up with my bills to take care of the things that I’m supposed to take care of as a homeowner. When the unit breaks again, I’ll make the call and pay the $75 call-out fee to have the unit re-looked at and whatever part replaced. The last two times, I didn't make the $75 payment because they had to come back out. I’m looking to American Home Shield to take care of what they need to take care. But I’m happy with the service. It’s a good service and the best thing is to keep up your payments, keep them as a company that’s gonna take care of things if something goes bad. It’s better than not having the service, having something go out and spending five thousand dollars to replace it.

And besides the calling and waiting and dealing with them, AHS hasn't been the greatest experience for us. My only biggest thing was that when I first got American Home Shield, I could actually talk to somebody. But now I can’t. Sometimes I might have two things that need to be done but I don't wanna make two requests. I’d rather talk to somebody and have them do it all at once. In the last couple of times I've called the 1800 number, I've gotten the automatic system. But I’m not very fond of that because when I use it, I would be scared that it didn't work.
So when the house wasn't getting cold and I was filing a claim for the AC, I tried the web for the first time. I got an email and I wanted to see if it worked. But I assumed that I wouldn’t get a phone call until Monday and I was quite surprised that I got a phone call on a Sunday. Then the contractor came out Monday morning, which I was grateful for because it was 100 degrees out.
I got a phone call when the technician was on his way and he was on time. I told him what the problem was and then I let him do his thing. I don’t like to stand over people. Sometimes it makes people nervous. Our interaction was very brief but I let him know that if he needed me, I would be at the front of the house. He fixed the capacitor and he didn’t leave a mess. As soon as he was done, the AC started cooling the house so it was great. He did good. Everything went well and he was in and out in 30 minutes, and I appreciate those types of thing.

My power went out and my air conditioner quit working for five hours so we thought we should get our AC checked out to make sure because this is Las Vegas, we don’t live without air-conditioning. I called in to file a claim and Air Pro Masters, AHS's contractor came. They did great and I paid $75 upfront. Their technician was clean, presentable, well spoken, and very efficient. He tested the AC and found no issues.
However, earlier in the spring when I had my water heater die, I paid my $75 to American Home Shield. And when they sent the guy out, the contracting company called me up and told me, “Oh, yeah. We’ll send a guy out but you’re gonna have to send us $350 to get the guy out there.” So I sent him $350. The guy came out here and said, “Oh, look at this. We gotta change this, we gotta change that. This is gonna cost another $100.” So I paid him a $100. And then he said, “Well, for a water heater, it’s an extra $350.” And then the plumber that came out asked an extra $100. I didn’t think that was the way the home warranty was supposed to work.
But as far as the air-conditioning guy goes, the work itself was excellent. We’ve had that company out here before when my pilot light in my furnace went bad in the winter time. And now, they did not only lit the pilot light but they showed me how and that means a whole lot to me. He came right out and fixed it and we haven't had any issue since. AHS was fairly efficient and mission accomplished. Our air was working in just a few days.

The motor of the fan on the outside unit of our AC froze up and had to be replaced. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and the contractor that they sent did a super job. They had knowledge of the product and the repair that needed to be done. AHS is expensive though and the co-pay seemed to go up all the time. I had to pay the expensive service call and then I had to pay for the Freon that went into the air conditioner and it gets a little frustrating.

I recently switched to American Home Shield and have been with them for a month and a half now. They were easy to deal with. In fact, we just had an electrical outage in several outlets. I filed a claim online and their contractor came the same day and had it repaired in no time. It was a very good experience and the electrical company was very good too. I hope that every other dealings with making claims is as good as this one.

It was pretty quick to submit a claim with American Home Shield when my dishwasher needed some work. While I was on the phone, it prompted me on what my problem was and then at the end, it told me a contractor would reach out to me within 48 hours. And within eight hours, the contractor called me to schedule. The contractor was informative and he taught me a few things on the appliance. He fixed the issue and he was pretty cool.

American Home Shield’s website is easy to use and it works well but it just says what is broken. It didn’t ask what the problem was. And then AHS sent a knowledgeable contractor and he did a great job. I filed a claim for my fridge and dishwasher at the same time. He was the same person for both appliances. The contractor was able to fix the fridge but a part of the dishwasher had to be ordered. He came in Friday and we are still waiting for the part. He said it could take a few days. But everything was good. AHS did great.

Our AC unit wasn't running or cooling and we didn't get any air to the dock, so we called AHS to take a look. I submitted the claim by phone once. But the unit kept giving us some issues, so we called them to go back and recheck it, and the claim was done on the web. Filing the claim was easy. The service contractor that came out from Total Air Care was willing to get the stuff done. On the first visit, I wasn't home and he waited for me for about 10 minutes. It was good for them to wait for me because I really needed somebody to take care of the unit. They were also clean and everything went well. They were professional.
When they came for the first time, they told me they found the issue, but I had to call them to come back because the unit was still giving me problems. The second person that came in said that something was left without being connected correctly and that was the reason the unit kept giving me a problem at that moment. That was a human error and it was okay. This is my first home here in the United States and it's the first time dealing with any company like this for an issue in a home, so I'm very pleased with AHS. They are easy to deal with and I'm looking to renew the contract for next year.

Within 48 hours, the contractor was calling me to set up an appointment. The contractor set up an appointment and got there on time. They also had everything they needed. Everything is working fine now. I was surprised that they didn’t tell me they could not fix it because what they did was not under the contract and they just fixed the heater. I have AHS warranty every month and I would recommend them.

I had a leak in the duplex next to me and I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. Unfortunately, it was a weekend. The first plumber that came out, which I have not dealt with before, said that it would take a lot to fix it. I called American Home Shield and asked them to send the other plumber out that had come out before. They did and the plumber was able to fix it that same day. Everything always happens on a weekend and to have somebody come out on a weekend is more expensive and AHS don't usually send anybody out unless it was definitely an emergency. Overall, I've been very pleased with AHS. They've always been very attentive when I've needed stuff done.

He was on the outside and had my daughter and son-in-law on the inside. He had them turn on the air so he could see what was wrong and when he found out what it was, it was great. Though he had to order the part for that, he was back in a day or two and the AC works great now.

I've had good incidences with everybody I’ve dealt with through American Home Shield. They kept me informed. Now, they changed a little wherein I'm getting more notifications in the form of text messages and emails to tell me that the contractor is on their way or has arrived and then they’ll follow up afterwards. They also update me whenever there's a change to their system, but sometimes I don't pay attention to that. I have had problems with their website, but if I call in, they always help me out and either resolve the issue, put the ticket in for me, or walk me through.
The service has been great from every one of the vendors we’ve had come out too. With my most recent claim, I was having water back up through the AC system and I had a wet floor in my laundry room, and American Home Shield sent World Class AC to come out. I would highly recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

My air conditioner was not working. I live in Georgia and it was 100 degrees outside. I have multiple sclerosis so for my air conditioner not to be working, it causes an extreme problem for me. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for a number of years and this is the first time that I have used them. The young men who were sent out were fantabulous. I appreciate them coming when they said they were. And they handled the issue in minutes. They were astute as well. They knew what they were doing and went straight to the problem. It made a difference for me for them to get the air conditioner working and to bump me on their schedule as quickly as they did. American Home Shield has been a blessing to have. I'm glad that I went ahead and got a home warranty because at first, I didn’t see the need of it because I was a software developer. I could pay for whatever repairs I needed on my home. I was really happy with the dishwasher. The other experience was for the icemaker that was not working. It is an ongoing process. The contractor said there was not a connection for the tube to come up, but my friend said there was. So I had to call AHS again, but they canceled. I tried to reschedule but I had to cancel also and AHS did not give the message to the contractor. The contractor showed up, but I had another appointment. It hasn’t been real smooth. They found me somebody who'd get my A/C unit the next day. The A/C is working great now and that A/C guy was really good and really cool. However, the washer guy couldn't find my house. He also couldn't lift the washer. I don’t know how you're a washer guy and you don’t bring a dolly. And then he just kept saying to me that it would be cheaper to replace. I told him I'm not just gonna go replace it. He should just submit the claim so that I could go through insurance and then he did. But it seemed that nobody called and told me he had submitted the claim.
I didn’t get a call till a week later, and then they were like, "This is what you get towards a new washer." I went and looked but I couldn't find anything because I have a matching set. I told them we have to fix it 'cause they don’t sell that color anymore. Also, I'm still waiting on parts, so I don’t have a washer now for two weeks. My rates went up as well and then I renewed it. The warranty came with the house when we bought it and we used it in our first year. Then we've kept it and we feel that we’ve gotten our money’s worth every year because it’s an older house. We’ve been pleased with American Home Shield and I have also recommended them. Filing a claim is very easy. You call and they tell you they’re gonna send somebody. You pay your $75 then somebody comes and give you a zero bill. Although the people American Home Shield has sent have not been fine sometimes, I have complained and they’ve usually taken care of it.
We don’t like that it sometimes takes a fairly long time to get people to come out. But we live in a tiny community and it’s pretty much a retirement community. There aren’t any worker bees here and we have to get our service from Pensacola or sometimes even Mobile, which is a long way. Recently, the AC wouldn’t run and some switch had to be replaced. It took three days for someone to come out and if we’d had to deal with the heat, three days might have been a little long. But we didn't have to deal with the heat. We have two air conditioners and one is for the upstairs level which is fortunately where our bedroom is. So we just spent time in the upstairs level. The washing machine and dryer are there, and we have a little refrigerator there too.
Plus the guy who came out was very good. American Home Shield won’t pay for a new air conditioner if yours breaks and you haven’t had routine maintenance. But that makes sense to me and I don’t have a problem with that. The guy came from the same company that comes twice a year and does our routine maintenance and they've been very good.

I wasn’t too happy with him because the gentleman delayed submitting the claim to American Home Shield and I was thinking what was going on because it has been two weeks. I find the warranty very valuable. I’m paying for it monthly but it is better to have it because it’s hard to find people that do these things. And it takes my time to check here and there. The claims process was fine but I’ve had nothing but trouble since then. The AC company that was sent out broke the drain pan but denied it. I had a leak through my ceiling and they’re not taking responsibility for it. My upstairs AC was running intermittently and it would turn off. If the drain pan had been broken and there was a leak prior, it would have been pouring through my ceiling before. So I’m furious. I’ve called and called but I’ve been hung up on and there’s been no resolution. I filed this claim over a month ago and my house is still not right.
There was one lady who was great. She sent an email to someone who was going to research it but I never heard anything back. When I finally called back again, I waited over an hour to get someone on the line but the call dropped and nobody called me back. I called back again a few days later. I talked to Michael and although I was extremely frustrated, he dealt with me fine and was very nice. I told him I was sorry for the way that call went but it was still not corrected. He reached out to the department concerned but they said that the the owner of the company said they were not responsible because I needed a float switch. But they showed me where the float switch was and the pan that wasn’t busted is where the float switch should be, and there wasn’t any water in there. So whether it was a float switch or not, it woudn’t matter.
I’ve contacted another AC company and they said that the company that American Home Shield sent were trying to screw me over. They verified what I already thought within hours of this guy coming and putting in a motor in my upstairs unit. Now, American Home Shield is telling me that I need two pounds of refrigerant for a busted drain pan. That’s $130 but it was supposed to be a motor that they fixed. There’s no refrigerant needed for a motor. On top of that, I had to pay $65 for a float switch and $100 for the service call. I’m over it.
The company was found so that they could get the drain pan but American Home Shield required them to have it shipped. That was weeks ago and I still don't have a drain pan so I can’t turn on my upstairs AC. It’s over 80 degrees and I can't sleep like that. I have dogs and kids too. Then it’s 77 downstairs and my downstairs unit won’t turn off because it’s still hot up there. I’m also gonna have to pay out the funds for my electric bill since the downstairs AC is running non-stop.
Michael was still waiting on the department and he said he would give me a call back once he receives further clarification. But that was two days ago and there’s no resolution whatsoever. Nobody’s taking responsibility and saying, “Hey, we sent out a crappy company. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. I’m sorry it’s still not fixed a month later.” This is a company that American Home Shield sent out to my house but they aren't doing a single thing about it. They said that they're not responsible and that I can talk to the owner. But that doesn’t help me.
I told American Home Shield that I will not be renewing my contract. This is my first and only experience with them and it has been the absolute worst ever. I've paid them $600 for the year and now additional money that I could have paid somebody else because there’s nothing that’s getting done. If I were dealing with another company myself, I already could have had this done. It shouldn’t take over a month. I’m going to be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because this is absolutely crap. I will also tell people I know not to use American Home Shield because of the type of treatment they give.
Updated on 08/08/2018: I was then contacted by supervisor Mariah **. She said they would do what was needed to get this corrected for me. She authorized me to use an outside company to look into getting this repaired more quickly. I contacted American Air. They charged a service fee of $117.95. I was told I would be reimbursed for that service fee and for the stand up AC unit I purchased. I sent her the diagnosis report for American Air and was told they would only cover $1500 per unit. Then was told since their company, Keith Powell, only diagnosed the upstairs unit, they would only reimburse $1500 total. She then sent an expedited request to Certified Heating and Cooling to come out to my home. Certified stated the downstairs unit was not running properly and needed a new coil. The upstairs unit needed a new drain pan.
It has been over 9 weeks since I have had AC in my home. It has been over 80 degrees in my home since 06/04. I have made over 30 phone calls and spent countless hours trying to get this taken care of. I have tried to contact Mariah ** via email and phone and she will not answer nor return calls or emails. She stated the reimbursement request was processed on 07/17/18 and would take 7-10 business days to receive the reimbursement. It has now been over 15 business days and I have not received the reimbursement check yet. I have requested to speak with a supervisor numerous times and was told no one would speak with me because I was "working with" Mariah **.
I have done everything in my power and jumped through every hoop that AHS has required. I am still without air. It has almost been 10 weeks. I am afraid they are trying to wait until my contract is out to do something. I told them I would not be renewing on 09/03/18 because of the way this has been handled and my issue is still not resolved.

We’ve had some issues with our sump pump backup battery since we’ve moved into our house and we finally put in a claim with American Home Shield a couple months ago to have somebody come out and get it looked at. Thereafter, we had a company come out and see what was going on and they took the backup battery with them. However, we haven’t heard from them in about a month or almost a month and a half. I finally got a hold of them and they said they didn’t have the correct phone number or e-mail address to get in contact with us that’s why they never called back to schedule it. We finally scheduled something for them to come back, but I’m not sure whether they replaced it or just fixed it. Shortly after they have left, it started acting up again so we had them come back to look at it once more and the guy seemed puzzled and was gonna give the feedback to American Home Shield through the portal. We haven’t heard from him yet.
But in between all that, we had a different claim for the sump pump and the same company had come out. There was something clogged in our actual pump that they were able to replace. We dealt with the same company quite often. However, the communication has been a little nonexistent in terms of us feeling like we always have to follow up and see when they’re gonna come and fix it for us.
Submitting the claim is fine. It’s easy to get a hold of American Home Shield when I need to do a recall or get them to come to talk and do business for us. The interactions with the contractor sent out were okay in the beginning. They may have gotten annoyed with us because they’ve seen seven or eight times, but it’s the business and they’ve got a contract, so they got to do it. I was talking to one of American Home Shield's representatives earlier about following up with the contractor because we haven’t heard from them in about a month.
But, other than that, we’ve submitted many claims through American Home Shield and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the other million things that we’ve gotten repaired in our house. The portal is easy, although I would much rather talk to a live representative when dealing with some of the issues that we have. I’ve been on hold anywhere from five minutes to 30 minutes when calling in to try to talk to a customer representative. But when I get a hold of somebody, they’re fast and they get a resolution. However, calling in can be a little tedious and sometimes the service provider feels the same way when they’re out here trying to do a repair. This one company has been giving us more issues than the other one we’ve had ever.
We have been very grateful to have a warranty company within our first year of home ownership. Lots of the times, it has come in handy. The output cost of not having a warranty company would be much higher than what we’ve paid so far. I would recommend American Home Shield. Things have gotten fixed in a timely manner and we’re happy and we don’t plan on switching for years to come. However, there could be a few improvements in communication between the actual companies and the contractors and with the customers and American Home Shield. Sometimes, I don’t feel like the circle is complete and there’s a lot of following up on the customer’s side to get some resolutions. The claims are always taken care of one way or another. I don’t have to wait in those cases a long time for a resolution. I’ve been satisfied with the orders that we’ve put in and got things fixed.

I've been a loyal customer of American Home Shield for six straight years and I've submitted many claims online. That process is easy. But most recently, I met three different contractors for the same dishwasher issue. The first one serviced me right away but they never called American Home Shield to recommend that I get a new dishwasher. I ended up getting assigned to a new company and waiting another ten days for them to come out.
When they came out, they said they could fix the dishwasher. We had to wait three weeks for them to get a part and then they said they didn’t have all the parts. After another week of me arguing, I finally realized they had the parts to fix it. They just didn’t have a rack so I was angry. On top of that, although they're called United Services of Arizona, they're in Atlanta, Georgia. So I had to make my phone calls to them before 2 PM my time because that is 5:00 in Atlanta and if I called after that, I couldn’t get a hold of anybody. That was really annoying. Even when the guy came out, it turned out that, as a matter of fact, he couldn’t fix the dishwasher. His suggestion was to put two seals on top of each other where you can get a bunch of molds and cause a whole bunch of problems. I thought that was a bad solution so I said no.
American Home Shield gave me a third company, Triple J. They were the final company I worked with and they would be my preferred company to work with in the future. They said that my machine was completely messed up and could not be fixed. They went ahead and suggested that I get a new one. But there is a cabinet next to the dishwasher and the plug needed to be a little longer, and their personal office policy is that they don’t do anything behind the cabinet so they refused to install the dishwasher for me. So I paid my own plumber to come out and install it.
The problem is that my brand new GE dishwasher, that I paid $258 to upgrade, is broken. When I called American Home Shield, they said that it was not their problem and that it's under the GE warranty. I don’t want a GE warranty though. I want a dishwasher that works. I didn’t buy a refurbished dishwasher. I bought a brand new dishwasher and if it doesn’t work when it was delivered and they have to fix it, that’s considered refurbished. I don’t want GE to come out and fix it. I want the dishwasher taken away and I want my money back. But American Home Shield told me that I didn’t buy the dishwasher from them and that I bought it from GE. But GE said they didn’t get any money and my credit card says I processed it through American Home Shield. AHS won’t give me my money back and GE won’t take the dishwasher back. GE won’t give me a location that I can deliver the dishwasher to either.
Apparently, my cash in lieu of replacement from American Home Shield would have been $376 and I want that. But American Home Shield said that they’ve already bought me a new dishwasher and it was over. But they bought me a broken one on which we both chipped in. GE let us all down but I'm the person who's still suffering. I'm now about 10 weeks into a broken dishwasher.

Our AC went out and it was fixed within 10 hours of my call. When I called AHS to file the claim, the representative was very friendly and we talked about some AC issue going out. Then we were able to get someone out to our home on that same day. It took the technician a little while to figure out which one of two AC units was broken, but he had it fixed within 45 minutes of his visit. The AC works perfectly since the repair. This is my first time using American Home Shield and everything has been positive, so far.

The contractor sent out by AHS for my friend's portable dishwasher came at a reasonable time. They had to wait a long time for the part which I knew they would because most people have stationary dishwashers and not portable. But the contractors did it in a timely manner, the interaction was good and my friend didn’t have any complaints at all. I was telling my tax person how much I like AHS and I would recommend them. They helped me so much that I can get things done by calling them and having them send somebody out. They charged me for the fee and it was done. I’ve got to call them again to set up another appointment. It works so perfectly and worth every penny.

The furnace wasn’t putting out any heat and the initial request for service was through online. The online site is very friendly. It's significantly faster than calling them, where there is a long wait time. And it has not been super helpful when we phoned in. Last year, the country kind of had that whole outbreak where it was bitterly cold in the northeast and we had no heat in our house for nine days because American Home Shield didn’t submit the claim when we first put it in. It was New Year’s and it was a whole series of no one working and unavailability, and it was a long period of having one very cold house. We were worried about losing pipes.
We ended up calling the contractors directly and we've learned that the much faster way to get things done is to submit the claim with American Home Shield, but as soon as we knew who it was that has been assigned, we called them directly to get on their calendar because they don’t seem to respond to American Home Shield as quickly as they do to a homeowner. The techs were great. During the deep cold, it took them three days to repair the unit because they had to order a couple of parts. Nevertheless, after the repair, everything has been fine. However, I will tell others to get some competitive quotes and see if they can find someone else.

Had air conditioning issue in 95 degree heat. I tried 2 different contractors, 6 days for 1st, 7 days for 2nd. Really??? Does this seem acceptable? I tried calling back to see if I could try another service provider. I understand places are busy but don't direct me to places that are too busy to come out. After lots of re-explaining my situation, customer service rep said he was putting me on whole but disconnected me. Called back again, on hold again, hoping this rep will not hang up.
Good evening Sarah,

I had an issue with the water heater in my condo. My realtor submitted the claim to American Home Shield for me. It took AHS about a week to send the contractor because I had to pay it for modifications, which I did not understand the necessity of that. Nevertheless, the guy was fine and the problem was fixed in one appointment. The company was amazing, however, I was a little disappointed that they had to do a modification.

My oven's sound and light would come on but the heating element didn't work well. We've had a little bit of back and forth with American Home Shield on that claim but mostly, it worked out okay. The technician came out, identified the problem with the control unit and then discovered that they didn't make those control units anymore so I had to get a new oven. The folks at American Home Shield said that they couldn't find an equivalent model and wanted to pay me the plan amount but I was able to find the model that was the successor to what I had. Once they got the model number, they were able to straighten everything out and order a new oven.
I filed my claim online but then it had to be followed up with phone calls as American Home Shield's online system didn't allow me to give them enough information. I've also run into this problem before when there was something wrong. I tried to do it online then ended up going to the rather long wait to get through on the phone to be specific so that they could accurately tell the technician what to be prepared for. American Home Shield seemed responsive. Just expect to sit on hold for a good 20 or 40 minutes as they get swamped at times. Also, the website is handy but it's simplistic. With all the things that we're supposed to be able to claim, we don't have those choices on the online system so I think that could be a little bit better.
The contractor American Home Shield sent was hard of hearing and I didn't get that at first until the person who was assisting him was trying to get his attention and he wasn't responding to him either. I was annoyed with him until I realized that it wasn't that he was deliberately ignoring me. I would have preferred that he was more careful with my stuff. When he came in and decided he wanted a part of the counter for his stuff, he just grabbed my stuff and moved it. I could have done that and would have been able to sort through it better later. It was a misunderstanding but he did a very good job on the installation.
I'm really pleased with the service and on the whole, it's a really good deal. I had a lot of plumbing issues at first and American Home Shield was fabulous for that. I felt very reassured about having the security of having the warranty program like when the oven went out and they sent out a $3,500 thing as it was an oven-microwave combination. Covering that despite excluding the cost of the service call was amazing. The downside is that I'm limited to the same type of appliance that was in the house. They apparently made a very careful inventory of the appliances that are covered. It's fine unless I upgrade or change things around. I would definitely recommend for people to have a home warranty.

I've had American Home Shield for four houses that I've owned from Southern California to here. Over the course of 2002 to 2018, I rarely called them. I had a husband who managed to replace washers in the plumbing. Plus, I had a many contractors’ clients, so if I really had an issue, I could call one of them. AHS was more for sizeable things, like the water heater. I personally found that they’ve been really good at what they do. They were timely and always brought the right parts.
I filed two claims with them and then I withdrew one. My washing machine blew up. It was all manual knobs, which tells how old it was. I was gonna have AHS come out to look at it, but it was gonna take over two weeks before somebody could come out. I bought a brand new washer and dryer instead of trying to fix it. Our toilet is just inches away from the washing machine, and when they installed it, not a scratch on the washer and no mess. They always clean up very well.
Also, the house was built in the 1970s and the water faucet was original to the house. If you grab just the head of it, you can pull it out and extend it. The extendable hose is made out of mesh and it had gotten some pinhole leaks, which was slowly dripping underneath the sink every time we turn the sink on. I called that in, and ironically, the contractor AHS used was Northwest Sundance. Unfortunately, it has been my experience so far that Northwest Sundance is just never ready. They are the go-to people for American Home Shield here and they were in Washington State too. For some reason, the communication that comes from Northwest Sundance, the emails or the texts don’t prepare their guys. I suspect that Northwest Sundance calls local plumbing individuals and sends them out on jobs.
They sent the first guy within a few days because any leak is considered more urgent. He came in and took pictures. And he wrote up a bid to get my toilets replaced. They were rescheduled to come back and the young man who called me, who was a completely different guy, was very nice. He called from Eugene, which is about 45-minutes south of Corvallis where I am. He said the email simply said that there was something wrong with my toilet. I said I was supposed to get a replacement toilet and get my faucet fixed. He said he'd get back to me. About an hour later, he called and he was 10 minutes out. So if there was going to be any conversation about any parts he might need and maybe me taking a picture of something and sending it to him, that was gone.
He came in and all he did was replace the toilet and collect the check. The bid was for $1,000 so I gave him the first $500 and then the last one, the $500. He walked over, looked at the sink, and pulled the faucet out. He said he would have to see if he had that in his truck. We cleaned out under the sink Tuesday just before the holiday. I said I haven't put the stuff back under the sink, and he said that doesn’t fix it. Bottom line is that I didn’t know the contractor hadn't fixed the sink. I paid him $75 for it because when they do the service call, you'd usually pay.
AHS really dropped the ball on my sink and no one called after the service. Usually, I get a call from them afterwards asking how the service went. It was not a huge leak and maybe that was part of the mindset or perhaps it was because they never called the same person twice and don't have a good follow-up. And I think it's because they're using a large organization that isn't communicating well. But except for that sink, every person AHS has sent has been qualified. I haven't seen anybody fumbling around.

American Home Shield is quick to respond when I submit my claim online which I usually do. I just take my account status and put it in there so it’s more convenient. The contractor for the toilet was very personable and interacted with me and a couple of other family members. He explained in detail what was wrong with each bathroom, what equipment was needed and what he was doing. And then after installing it, he explained how it was working and the warranty information on it. AHS is doing a great job and if we have problems or issues with the reps, they’re gung ho about fixing the issue. It is a good warranty plan and for anyone who especially owns their own home, it is a must-have to cut down on cost and repairs.

One of the HVAC units needed servicing. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was easy to navigate their website. However, there was always a several-day waiting period because the ones that service the warranty company are always backed up. That’s the biggest frustration with the home warranty service but that’s standard. Also, when it’s something like plumbing, we usually end up calling an independent company. It has only happened once but it’s not something that can wait if your toilet is not working. That’s the worst part about it but I still think the home warranty is worth it in general.
Also, the tech who was sent for the HVAC was fine and it was surprising because online, one will find that there in Atlanta as well as Greenville, the company is slammed on Yahoo. It’s just horrible but it was fine for us. The guy was great and he fixed the problem. I was really glad I didn’t read the reviews before he came out. Nevertheless, the HVAC unit has been working fine after the repair. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been very good.

We submitted a claim online to AHS because our dryer wasn’t working anymore. We weren’t getting any heat and it was getting very moist. It was easy submitting the claim online. However, every once when we had to call them and that’s when it becomes unfortunate. It’s especially if we ever have had somebody to come out, and we were either not happy with who they sent out or it’s more complicated than what was initial. Then we have talked to someone and there are times that my husband and I just pass off the phone back and forth on each other so we can go to the bathroom and take a shower. It gets really bad sometimes.
We also had one contractor that we were not too thrilled as we had an AC problem and he kept talking about Freon. Although he inspected the coils, we found that we had a massive leak and ended up having to replace our unit. It was a waste of time and money since we bought more Freon. That was also the longest time we’ve been on hold trying to explain what was really going on with American Home Shield.
We also had a leak with one of our pipes and we couldn’t turn it off from the inside so we had to have somebody to come out to professionally turn it off from the main outside. We learned that there was no 24-hour plumber so it turned into a major disaster in our basement because we couldn’t get anybody out and we tried to talk to AHS. We finally had to call whatever plumber who would respond but they were expensive. We didn’t go for him but we had him to at least turn off the water to try to minimize the damage but it wasn’t until I clean up a bit for $20,000 for the damage because we just couldn’t get anybody out and it was bad.
I didn’t have to wait on hold with American Home Shield because it happened in the middle of the night. And every time I called they assured me they were trying to get a hold of somebody. They might have people under their list that claims to be 24-hour plumbers but even when I talked to them on the phone, they’d say that they couldn’t guarantee it.
Otherwise, we’ve been with AHS since we first bought the house several years ago. When it’s something random and normal that we can deal with, and then just put online, we’re happy. We haven’t cancelled with them. I also believe they’re better than Old Republic which we had when we first bought the house. We got rid of them. Definitely, we’re happier with American Home Shield. There are some things that they can do better.

At first, we had an outside vendor come in to check our AC because the temperature jumped up to around 85 degrees inside the home. It was bad, especially with three young children in the house during the day. We were told that the cost for them to fix the problem would range from $15 to $10,000. I told my wife that we should call American Home Shield and get one of their vendors in because we've always had a great relationship and everything has worked itself out whenever we have done that. We called them and it was perfect.
We had the vendor come out the next day. They walked upstairs and looked at the AC unit inside. The three filters that were sitting inside the walls of the home right next to the unit was messed up. The tech pulled all three out, went outside and filled up the coolant. It was down to about a quarter left. The vendor we had the day before said they discontinued that coolant, which was why they would have to change the entire thing. AHS's guy had it sitting in the truck and not only saved us $15 to $10,000, he had everything fixed within 30 minutes.
Having a home warranty is extremely valuable. We've had major appliances in our home that have messed up over the past couple of years. We had one issue that is still not fixed and we had a bad feeling about it. But I we called in three or four times after that, and everything was handled perfectly on those other ones. People need to check into going with AHS over who they were currently using.

For our first claim, the washer would stop in the middle of the cycle and we couldn’t finish washing our clothing. So we submitted a claim online and it was easy. Navigating the website wasn't hard. The technician from Adam’s Appliance Repair who came out wasn't very friendly but he was very competent in his job. He fixed the washer but 7 days after, it broke in exactly the same way again. So, he came back and then fixed it again but he's going to order a new switch.
But apparently, our washer is old and the switch is not being made anymore. The tech said they're still looking for options like trying to get it from a different provider, but it's taking three weeks. He also said we can order a new washer and although there's a fee that we have to pay, we‘d get a washer that won't keep on breaking. So right now, it's a temporary fix and the switch is gonna break anytime again. And I'm still waiting for the part to see if it has arrived. I didn't immediately call in so I ended up having to pay again to have somebody come out and finish it.
Also, with the claim for my pool timer, the first contractor AHS got a hold of never contacted me. I waited two weeks and there was still nothing from them. They sent the first person out from Affirmative Air who then said they don’t work on air conditioners in condos and left. AHS took time to get the next guy out there. In the meantime, the guy worked on the tenant to cut out AHS and just go with them for $660, and it took four days for him to turn the report in. He worked on them the whole weekend and it didn’t break them, but they were really in trouble with 110 to 115 degrees.
So then, I had to get the tenants a floor unit which didn’t work. It’s new but that’s just too hot. The guy came back and said he had to order parts. This started around June 13. Now, he went to order the parts and finally came back but said that he ordered the wrong parts. He has to go back out and get some more parts. And when he came back, he said they ordered the wrong parts again.
This has gone on for so long that the tenants broke the lease legally, which they’re perfectly capable of doing. I’m paying $100 a day to put them in a motel, waiting for AHS to function, which they can’t seem to do. Then I found out that the second people that AHS have been working with don’t even have an office. They don’t have someone answering the phone. They also operate out of a van, and I think they sleep in it too. They still haven’t fixed the AC. Now, I’m out $278 for the fan and the floor air conditioner.
AHS has no authority to do anything except apologize and say they're not gonna cover anything. They also said they will cover the air conditioner but they're not responsible for any losses I take because of their incompetence and their failure to perform in a reasonable period of time under the contract. I called them every day and nobody could say anything on the screen. I asked them if they have what I said on the screen from the last time I called. They said no. So, finally, I had to call back the very last time and ask them to read to me what they have on the screen because nobody puts on it any of the comments I’m making. I would tell others that I am not happy with American Home Shield.
Good afternoon Belinda,

American Home Shield has always been fabulous. When I filed a claim for the air conditioner, I did it online and the claims process was very easy. It took half an hour to hear that a contractor will be sent, and then he did a fabulous service as well. Now, the AC is working great since it was repaired.

I’m living in Florida so I keep my temperature fairly warm. I keep that on 80 at the thermostat and sometimes when I have company over, it gets quite warm so I want to put it down even to 78, and it would not go. In the afternoon when the sun was really warm, my AC would go as high as 84, even with the AC working. I got through the automated system of American Home Shield. They had my email address and right away I received an email confirming the name of the company that was gonna be showing up.
The technician quickly found the problem. He told me that the coil was rusted and it was older. And the reason why the temperature couldn’t get it any cooler was because I needed more coolant. The technician explained to me that I would be needing a new coil and AHS would probably cover that. However, I would have to put all the new coolant in myself and that would be like $700. And so as it stands now, every time I’m having trouble I have to call and get coolant. I don’t know how long this can go on.
Then he also explained to me something new that I didn’t realize with American Home Shield. He said that they no longer replace the air conditioning, even though it was on my list. He said what they would do is just give me a $1000 credit towards a new one. And I had never heard of that before. And then he tried to sell me what would cost me between around $3000 or $4000 out of my own pocket. We let it go at that because we can’t afford it right now. It also took the technician a few days to come out but that’s understandable. Everybody has air conditioning, so I realize they can’t come out in a day or two. I have no problem with American Home Shield. I’ve had it for quite a number of years and then I signed my mother over.

Other than that, the Value Rooter people who came out did a good job. Overall, American Home Shield has done well.

I called American Home Shield when I had an issue with the AC. It was extremely hot that day and it was gonna be a four-day wait. But there was not much they could do when there was nobody to come out either. They found a company and they phoned me up. There was a day and a half then they sent somebody out there. The technician was a good guy and an experienced professional. We talked a bit and he was very friendly. We asked him what he was doing with things. It turned out that the thermostat wire was running through a piece of copper tubing and the vibration wore through it and shorted it out. That was what was taking the fuse out. He was good overall and I would recommend that company. I would also tell others what coverage American Home Shield does and that they better be aware if the price is right.

The people who sold us our house left without leaving a key to the garage, which was keyed differently within the entrance to the house. They tried to mail it, but it never arrived. But as a part of purchasing a new home, we got an offer from American Home Shield to rekey up to three locks for only a $75 visit. So I called them and their representatives were very helpful. They had the Realty Key guy call me for an appointment. He came and he was prompt. He knew what he was doing and he was professional, courteous and friendly. He went out of his way to do a couple of things for me that weren’t covered by the contract. So, it was a very positive experience with him.
AHS is a great company. They're customer-oriented, responsive and easy to deal with, and their contractors do good work. I like the attitude that they have of being willing to go the extra mile for the client. There's a sense that they're willing to, without an additional charge provide some extra service to the customer while the contractors are on site. So I found that different and helpful.

We bought a home a year ago, and were happy with AHS when they helped with our refrigerator. We just renewed our warranty, and within a week things in our jacuzzi are going. First was the blower would die after running for 5 minutes--I guess a fan wasn't working. That was somehow denied because it wasn't the "motor", which makes no sense. There was no way to fix the problem without replacing the WHOLE blower, and on top of that, the not working fan made the blower not work. So we had to pay for their person to come look at it, and then had to pay to replace the blower. That's a total of $400+ on that.
Now the heater isn't working. There is a leak in a pipe. That's somehow not covered either, even though our policy clearly states they cover all heating components. Tried to tell us a piece is missing. That is not what the guy who came out to look at it said. They have denied that, and said it's going to be $2000 to fix it. The guy who had looked at it, said that the best way to fix the leak, was to actually replace the whole heater. I'm very upset, since I thought we had picked a warranty company that seemed to have a good reputation. I will be spreading the word on our experience in all the places I can.

Our real estate agent purchased this policy for us when we purchased our home. I still think it was very thoughtful of her to do this. However, the experiences we've had with American Home Shield have been nothing but horrible. The first experience we had was the Air conditioning company they sent out was trying to do a side deal. He made it seem as my air handler wasn't covered and he had one in the shop and would give me a good price on it. I had a bad feeling about what he was saying, because this was his 3rd visit to recharge the condenser with Freon. So when I called BS on them, the AC company told AHS they did not want to come back to my house because they were afraid of me. The second company that came, actually replaced the Air handler.
Now fast forward 2 years after I pay AHS with auto pay every month, we still have problems with the AC unit, I had a co-worker refer me to an AC person who would come out on a weekend, he checked the unit and said the entire unit needs to be replaced being it was so old and it kept freezing up. I called AHS, their techs did come out the same day, however, they left an invoice with my parents and said they needed parts and would return. Two days later we kept trying to call the AC company (Liberty heating and AC) and their cell phone voicemail was full and could not leave a message (not even professional enough to have an office line). Needless to say, they did not return our calls.
We called AHS thinking they could at least get us some information. We were quite wrong, they tried calling the same number, with the same result as us. AHS 'said' they emailed them, again, no response from Liberty AC. We were coming into a heat wave of +98 degrees, I have elderly parents that I take care, so since AHS wasn't helping me, I cancelled the service ticket so they wouldn’t charge me the $100 for the AC techs visit. So then I had to go into my own pocket and pay $3,285 to get the condenser replaced. We I tried to get reimbursed from AHS, they said since I cancelled the service ticket, they wouldn’t honor my request. I asked for a supervisor, they said they can put in the "request to speak to a supervisor" and their normal response time for a supervisor to call me back is 24-48 hours. Imagine???
If you google Liberty Heating and air conditioning, you will see all the complaints are the same. If you google AHS, you will see nothing but complaints about them. I am truly surprised to see the positive comments on this site. However, all the positive feedback is from communities in the midwest etc. None are from the Northeast... perhaps the issue is with the Regional superiors in these parts??? I am completely shocked how this company is still in business, and the agencies that oversee these types of businesses allow this. I can compare this to extortion! We pay you for a service, but you never provide the service. In my opinion, the CEO/President and its officers should all be in jail for scamming the public.

What he brought along is some cheap $35 faucet. I was not happy and called AHS to have me at least some decent brand basic faucet to be installed. On Amazon, it is hard to find single handle faucet for less than $80.
AHS said, "We can pay you $155 and you have to buy new faucet and get it installed." How is this possible. I have already paid $100 for service fee and now getting $155 back in which I am responsible for not only buying new Faucet but also getting installed by myself. Numerous call and holding phone for hours has no positive response so far. As I type this, I am on phone for more than hour and they are keep transferring me to different department. I hope they get this message and understand that consumer buy this for peace of mind. After spending $100, I am still living with broken faucet for more than a month. I requested them to refund service fee and send $155 so that with total $255, I can at least try to get buy basic but good quality faucet and get plumber to install. I hope AHS get this message. I recently had a really bad experience with AHS related to my Air conditioning system. I had a 9.5 year old unit that came with the house, that stopped pushing cold air out. I opened a ticket with AHS and they sent out their contractor to examine the system. The diagnosis was that the Evaporating coil was leaking and the refrigerant had all leaked out. It turns out that my current system uses R-22 as the refrigerant that is being phased out and is expensive because there's limited supply. I also found out that AHS only pays 10$ per pound for a refrigerant in a scenario like this where the contractor is asking for 125$ a pound. The overall recommendation by the contractor was that he would replace the Evaporator coil, which AHS would pay for along with the labor for the putting it in place.
My system is located in the basement right next to the wall where my condenser unit is outside the house probably a total of 8-10 feet away. The out of pocket quote to "modify" the system to fit the evaporator coil was over 2K. So the final amount I would pay for the refrigerant and "modifying" my system to fit the coil approximately 3,200. I got three other contractors to check and each contractor recommended that I change the coil and condenser unit, with varying quotes and the best being 3750 for a system with the same rating. I talked to AHS about this and they want to pay me ~715$ if I want to fix it by someone else, because "modifications of existing system" are not covered.
I don’t get why AHS expects me to go with their contractor when they need enough money to replace the whole system but all they are going to do is replace a part, and have me chip in the "modification" fees. Totally disappointed! The whole point of paying every month for home warranty is so I don’t have to foot an unexpected bill like this. Not to mention that the minimum wait time I have faced on the customer service line is 30 minutes.

He came back and because the water heater was in an outdoor closet and he was going to use a torch he had to remove the water heater as a safety issue not as an access issue, he took pictures to send to AHS, he charged $125.00 to remove and replace the water heater to prove it was a safety issue, not an access issue. AHS refused to pay the additional $125.00. I understand the access issue when you cannot do the job because you cannot get access, this was not the case. I talked to AHS but it do no good. We had a slab leak early June that flooded most of our first floor and ruined our hardwood floors. We were going to call our regular plumber who handled a previous slab leak for a flat fee of 1200 dollars, but remembered we had the AHS warranty, so called them instead. We asked if we could use our regular plumber but were told we had to use one of their contractors. He came out the next day and temporarily fixed the massive water leak, but there was a secondary leak as soon as he left, so we had to shut down the water to the house entirely for three days-no toilet or showers available for that time. The plumber sent the information to AHS who denied the claim, but never bothered to tell us that. We called the plumber back after the third day to ask what happened and he told us AHS' decision. I called them to ask why and they said they don't cover slab leaks because they are not accessible. Two problems with this:
1. Since we told AHS when we first called in this was a slab leak, they should have informed us at the time. To add insult to injury, we were charged a $125 fee for them to come out when they should never have come out if they are claiming they don't cover slab leaks. On top of that, we were charged by the plumber $2,400 to fix what would have cost $1,200 by our regular plumber because we were told we had to go with this plumber!
2. The contract under section E-4 says in the NOTE section "where covered repairs require access to plumbing, AHS will provide access to plumbing only through unobstructed walls, ceilings or floors and will return access opening to a rough finish." Here is the important part- "If the plumbing is accessible only through a concrete floor, wall or ceiling, AHS will pay up to $1,000 per contract term for access, diagnosis, repair or replacement of such plumbing, including returning access openings to a rough finish."
AHS did none of the above and denied the relevance of this note in their contract. The plumber accessed the plumbing from a wall and re-routed it through the ceiling. My warning to all of you is be sure to talk to the contract department before signing on with AHS. Think of the possible scenarios you may face, because their contracts are not written to protect you...but to protect them. I made three phone calls to AHS to resolve this issue. I got a very impersonal letter from them as a result saying absolutely nothing. I am searching online for a different company. My homeowners insurance responded very professionally to our crisis...go AAA!

I have heard great things about this warranty service. I recently initiated a service call for my washer that was having issues. They seemed great, but we ended up having a technician over at our house EVERY OTHER WEEK replacing parts that would fix it. Services started at the end of April and we are in the beginning of July now trying to fix it. It also appears that they don't keep record with their technicians that they send, as they decided to send a different technician company half-way through. The tech companies were friendly, but AHS gave our 2nd tech company NO information about what was done and replaced for the first company. It is clear this company wants to take your money but they don't want to pay to replace your machines.
To make matters worse, I have called multiple times to receive a cash out offer (as I am sick and tired of waiting for a new machine), and they said two weeks ago, that I would receive a call by the end of last week. I called this Monday, and they said they can't promise anything and they are busy. I just finished (if you could even say that) talking to a representative who said I couldn't talk to their manager. Please note that I am very calm throughout all of this and don't believe that anger helps these situations. Then I said I am willing to wait. After being on hold for 15 minutes, she says I am still here but you can't talk to my manager. I said I am willing to wait, and after another half hour on hold, the call drops.
Please keep in mind I haven't moved (I have been at my desk), and not only do I have great cell service, but I also have wifi and my phone is on wifi connect as well. Basically, they dropped my call. All that to say, here is what I have to deal with, and have had 0 solutions. 8 visits from technicians (I have lost hours from work meeting the tech there to fix it which result in me working late) 2+ hours on the phone either on hold or talking to a customer service rep. No known date of when I will get a "cash out" and no idea if it will even be worth anything! I wish they would just refund my annual subscription amount at this point, and I could never again use them. I would never recommend these guys to anybody!

We had some issues with our pool recently and my husband took care of the claim submission to American Home Shield. American Home Shield gave a timeframe while I stayed home to wait. They sent out Serene Pool and the people from there didn't know what they’re doing. Their technician came in, fixed something and left. After three weekly services, my pool guys told me that the technician didn’t do the job right and the filter is not working. So, my husband called them back. Serene Pool came back again and this guy got upset with me asking why the pool is not working. I said that I don’t know anything about pools which was why I was waiting at home so he can come and take a look at it.
Without telling me what he did, he just left. I went into the pool in the backyard and then he was gone. My husband called from work and he said that he had to place everything and he has no idea why it’s not working. So he had to call American Home Shield again and they sent out a different company. The second company that came in said that there was some kind of connection in there, which he did not put right. He did it backwards that’s why it was not sucking in the water and filtering it.
My question to American Home Shield is if Serene was not doing the right work and they’ve been told to know how to do it, then their time and my time using a company that did not take care of the solution was wasted. That was something that we didn’t like because I had to stay home twice with the three visits and for the second company. I had literally had to have three different days taken off from work just so that the pool can be fixed.
Another time, we had a problem again when our toilet was overflowing and the plumbing company they sent was very bad and with attitude. They were rude and decided that the pump was not working and their technician replaced it. He left and then the same thing happened. They came again after five weeks and then they said that the handle was not working, but they should have checked it. I’m taking off from work for them to fix it but the issues are not getting fixed.
This second time, they sent a supervisor and he said that they should have noted that the handle is bad, not the pump. In sum, the plumbing experience and the pool experience with the companies sent out by American Home Shield were not satisfying. It’s questionable because American Home Shield is reputable to have good service providers so I don’t know why we had this kind of experience. Other than that, my husband has always been happy with American Home Shield and he has never changed it.

I kept on calling to ask if the part was already in. They told me that it didn’t get in and they were going to reorder. I told them that it was ridiculous. It was 120 degrees and I have no refrigeration for over a month. Then they came back to say that somebody else ordered the same parts and that they were out of town, which is a lot of baloney. It took over three weeks to get the part.
When the tech came with the part to get the ref fixed, he left a lot of debris inside the refrigerator. He didn’t test it so I’m still without a refrigerator because it doesn't cool. This contractor needs to be dropped. They usually say they’ll call you between 24 hours but they don’t make an appointment till a week later. I called American Home Shield to see if they can help me. My husband just passed away and I had to leave town so I need the refrigerator fixed. But they didn’t do anything about it. I am dissatisfied. They should have spoken on my behalf.

Our water heater had a rust that the water was dripping down on the pilot light causing it not to be able to light. I called American Home Shield and they gave me a number to call to make an appointment with one of the contractors that they use in my location. The contractor was out of Osage City, Kansas and they were very good. The guy was professional and very conscientious. He came out, explained what he was gonna do and did it in a very short time. He made sure he cleaned up after himself and did a super job. I was impressed and since then the water heater has been working great.
When I had a claim a year ago on a microwave in the house, I was getting a little bit disappointed then. It was not really American Home Shield’s fault but they just kept recommending me to talk to somebody else. Finally, when I got a supervisor position, she took care of the situation. Until then, it was a hard thing to get taken care of but it got taken care of so I’m pleased with them. My contract is coming up in about a month and I’m going to go with them for another year.

Filing a claim through the American Home Shield app on my phone was easy. However, the part took about a week to get and I had to call back and ask the contractor if they got the part. And when they said they did, I said, "Well then let's go." Other than that, everything was great. The guy was professional, friendly and on time. And the unit has been working perfectly since the repair.

I sent a claim to AHS through their website and it was easy. The oven was not heating up. We had a power outage and when the power came back up, sometimes it would trip the breaker inside the oven unit. We had two contractors. The first one that got dispatched didn’t seem to be totally familiar with the Thermador brand, so he left. A second contractor got dispatched and they were experienced with the Thermador brand, so the whole event took only 10 to 15 minutes. The contractor reset the breaker and it restored its ability to heat up. There was another call we made to AHS which was for our central AC that hadn’t been activated in a decade. The contractor came out and he found that one of the wires in the little control box was loose, so they bound that up and the unit is now working again. Our experience with AHS has been good. The people were courteous, friendly, and efficient.

We got our AHS home warranty when we bought our the house 10 years ago. We've kept it since because it has been effective. I think it runs on the borderline and the amount we wind up paying is a little less than what we would have paid without it. But still, we get things done fast and with no hassle. Most recently, we were getting water running down our ceiling. I didn't know how to fix it and I didn't have the right tools. AHS' contractor came and described what was happening. He said he thought he knew what the problem was by showing where it was. He said all we had to do was blow the pipes out. Thereafter, he figured out where the drain went to and he had me put a towel down because it could have blown back through the sink and made a mess. Then he went to the attic, spent about five minutes there and was done. Since the repair, the plumbing has been doing great.
I've been surprised that 10 years after we bought our home warranty contract, we would still have it. I thought that things would be bad and AHS wouldn't be making money. They wouldn't even want to deal with us. Instead, our warranty is running such that they make money and we save money. It can't get better than that.

The water dispenser on our refrigerator stopped working. I went online and logged in to American Home Shield's site and the repairman was assigned from there. We had reported it once before and the previous repairman told us to turn up the temperature in our freezer because it was freezing the line. This time, the repairman actually did something. He was aware that there was a fix offered by General Electric to unfreeze the line. He ordered that part and he will be coming back to put that part on the refrigerator so that the water line won't freeze up anymore. I was more impressed with the second serviceman that I was with the first. He seemed to know more about how the refrigerator operates the water line in the dispenser. So, I'm pretty happy about that.

I Googled American Home Shield and there were some good reviews. I had two American Home Shield representatives when I signed up with them and they were awesome. And then when I had my first claim two weeks ago, I did it over the phone as I like talking to a live person. It was very simple and AHS was very efficient and informative about the whole thing. My AC wasn’t working and it turned out that something about the brake light wasn’t on. I had the contractor come out the next or the day after and he was very friendly and patient with me since I didn’t know what he was talking about with regards to the AC. I had to call my friend and the contractor was kind enough to talk to my friend to let him know what was going on and then my friend would tell me about it.
Now, the AC is working perfectly fine and since I’ve had no issues with American Home Shield, I’ll refer them to any other homeowners that I know including my friends. I also like American Home Shield's packages. They have three different packages at three different prices. AHS has three different payment options to get the stuff that people really need to be insured for cases like what I had two weeks ago and they're affordable.

I've been in real estate for 35 years and in all that time, I've used American Home Shield. But I was not happy this time with a claim on my own house. It was horrific. The contractor that they sent out could not clear the drain. The technician said it was blocked by a piece of plastic. The thing he found was the size of a dime but it wasn't even the blockage and he wouldn't let me keep it. He went back and filed the report saying that the drain was blocked by a foreign substance and American Home Shield was supposed to ask them for pictures to see exactly what it was.
Then the contractor said that in order for them to come back, they would have to remove the toilet and do another kind of cleanout. It would cost between $700 and $1,200 and American Home Shield wouldn't cover that. They sent another guy out and he was supposed to be the owner or the manager. He said, "He said that to you? He shouldn't have said that. No, we can clear it." But when I asked if he was gonna try again, he said there was no cleanout here for this so they couldn't do it. Then he went, "Well, I guess he was right. Maybe we have to take the toilet off.” He gave me an estimate of $725 and I told him to go to hell. He didn’t even try it again.
I called another plumber that I had used before. They did the same cleanout and they were able to clear the drain out in two minutes. So if the second guy brought the proper equipment and tried it again, he could have done it too. But no, it was clogged up for over a week and they were wanting to charge me around $1,200. On top of that, they scratched the inside of my toilet with the tools that they used. The plumber I knew used a tool that had rubber on it and that didn't scratch my toilet. I've called the first contractor five times now, telling them to call me back and say how they would remedy my scratched toilet. But they've never called me back.
When I talked to American Home Shield, they blew me off. They said they had no control over the contractor side and that the only thing they could do was take them off our list, indicating we don't want them to come and service our house any longer. What they should have done was send down another contractor to see if they could resolve the issue instead of telling me, “Well no, sorry. That’s your expense.” There was no reason that American Home Shield should not have covered it. Be careful of the contractor American Home Shield sends out and if they tell you that a job is gonna cost an outrageous amount of money and that the warranty won't cover it, tell them you want American Home Shield to send out a second opinion.

I've been with American Home for two months now and I've already submitted two claims, one for the pool and one for the AC. The bottom half of my pool pump where the filters go cracked and AHS sent a contractor to change all that. He, however, wasn't communicative and lied to me. He put the thing back together where it would leak, the casing was not tightened down properly and the seal wasn’t put in properly. Before that guy left, he told me to call him back if it leaks and he’ll come back to fix it. He obviously knew that it was gonna leak because he didn’t put it back together correctly and didn’t tighten it down. I understood that once they fix what they come out to fix for the warranty part and then you call them back out because there’s another problem, they end up wanting to charge you for that. I knew how that ballgame was played and I didn’t appreciate that very much. That experience put a bad taste in my mouth.
I’ve got another seal leaking on one of the valves now but I’m probably gonna have to have somebody look at it. But the claim on the AC went perfectly and AHS redeemed itself. The guy from Bella Heat and Air was great, communicative, stayed in contact with us the whole time and let us know where he was and when he was gonna be here. Then, when he got here, he was very professional. I already did the troubleshooting for him and told him what I found, and he told me that he knew exactly what was wrong with the unit. He then went back there, pulled the capacitator out, and told me that he has one of those things in his truck. He then brought it in and installed it. He even sat there and checked my other unit for me, just to make sure that everything was good. Now the AC is working great and I would recommend AHS.

And then we get phone calls from the contracting company that they are sending out. For this claim, we requested for the company that we had a good experience with. However, that contractor was really booked so the wait time took about four days which was a little bit longer. Nevertheless, when he got out there, he was able to fix the problem. They had replaced two fuse boxes and we haven’t had a problem with the unit since. I had a plumbing issue and the contractor American Home Shield sent came out on a Saturday and first of all let me know that he doesn’t like working on a Saturday. I told him that my ceiling was leaking from my shower and I showed him where it was leaking down into my living room. He turned the shower on for 20 minutes and said that if nothing was gonna happen at that moment, nothing was gonna happen. I asked him if he thought that I just put the stain up on my roof. The leak was coming from my shower when I let it run a long time and I don't know where it was coming from. Then he said that he would take pictures of it which he did.
The next thing I had was my toilet was running. He said that he couldn't see anything wrong with it, so we poured everything out of the bathroom. Then he said that something was broken which was the cause and he said to simply let the water run. He said that he doesn't know if he got the part in his truck and he would have to get it from the office next week sometime. So I said, "You mean to tell me that you came over here and you don’t have anything to fix anything in your truck." And he said, "Well, we don’t carry everything. He went out to the car and he had that piece. Then I told him that the toilet was flushing slow in my son's bathroom. He went in there and he said it was simply the water turned off but it wasn’t. He then said it was turned down, so after he left, it continued to do what it was doing.
When he came back to fix the showerhead, first he told me that AHS would probably not even repair the showerhead. I said that it had got to be something leaking down into my living room. He said that that he has been in the business for 30 years and he said it had to be the old showerhead. He left, came back and replaced the showerhead that he said AHS would not probably fix, but he never went back to my son's bathroom and before I could make it back out to his car, he was gone. AHS has lots of contractors so they don't really have control over them. You did get in the pot and sometimes you don't know what you're getting. But I highly recommend American Home Shield. If you don't have AHS get it.

I had a horrible experience with the contractor sent out by American Home Shield. Recently, our air conditioner wasn't working so I submitted a claim over the phone. The fan wasn’t turning on and the house wasn't cooling. Air-Pro was dispatched first and the first technician told us that we had to replace the filter and do a couple of things that weren’t covered so we did that and we paid the extra fee. And then, about a week later, the same thing happened again. It was the same issue so a technician from the same company came out again. They told us that there was a crack in the line and it was low on freon. It also needed a blue jelly to fix the crack. Since none of which was covered under my warranty, it was an additional $350 to fix.
They did all that and it worked for about two days. At that time, I told them the problem is that the fan is not turning on and that there's an issue with the motor. The gentleman said it was fine but he didn't even look. Then about a week later, the same thing happened again. I called American Home Shield and they sent the same company out again with a different technician this time. When this technician came out, he said that the unit was beyond repair. It was a 15-year-old unit after all. Everything was shot and the Freon was low again, and the unit needed to be replaced. At that point, I was thrilled because we were several weeks without air and I got sick of waiting. He said he had to go run and pass it to his owner and then his owner would be the one to call it in. I said that it was no problem.
The next day, I called to follow up because at that point the house was 83 degrees, and the company instructed me to call the owner; His name was Rocko and he was handling our claim. I told him that I wanted to see where we were as far as expediting the process just because our home was so warm. The gentleman then began to scream at me on the telephone. He said that no one told me they were going to replace my unit. He also said the unit wasn’t going to be replaced, that he was going to throw a few parts in it to see if those parts would work. I insisted that it was not what his technician told me. He began to scream at me again and said he told this to me yesterday.
Long story short, I told him that I was looking at the form from their technician and it said that the unit needs to be replaced. I also told him that I can tell specific information that he told me. I then suggested calling the technician and do a three-way call but he said the technician was not reachable via telephone, and that he wanted to put a $1,500 part in with my warranty. And if that part didn’t work, then they would consider replacing it. So I said I'm not okay with it. We were three weeks in and I have already given them $500 to put a part in that he was saying, and it still continues not to work. He then hung up on me. So I called American Home Shield and requested a different company. I also told them to tell Air Pro never to come to my home again.
I was a little frustrated with AHS only because all of this took extra time. My understanding was that we continue to pay with our warranty so that if our furnace or air conditioner broke, it would be replaced 100%. It didn't help that every time I’ve called American Home Shield, I spoke with different people and I would be told something a little different each time. The first person said a new unit was fully covered. Then I was told they're gonna give me $600 for a new unit. And then I was told $400 when a new unit cost me $3,400. So I felt a little bit misled. While they will be sending me an $840 check, which would certainly help, I wasn’t anticipating having to send three grand for a new unit. Had I known I was still gonna pay for it, I would’ve done that four weeks prior. I thought I had to go through all of the appropriate channels because if it needed replacement, then it would be covered. In the end, it was a learning curve for me.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

He also installed something for one of the toilets so it would flush well. When he looked at the water heater, he said that it was fine. However, after a few days, we had a leak again. I told my son to check the water meter to make sure that the leaks were completed. A couple of days later, I had the water company come out and they told us that we had a really bad leak.
We called American Home Shield again and they said that the water heater is completely gone. It was leaking from the bottom of the water heater. After that, my son called them again and was told that the water heater could not be fixed. In order to bring it up to code, it was gonna cost us $1,000. My son asked them if they could give us the money for the water heater and how much we're gonna get for the plumbing. We will find our own plumber and that's where we're at now. I can’t add any insinuating factors or additional information with it. I’ve had the policy for several years now and I’ve used it multiple times, and sometimes there’s a very significant wait time but all the representatives were very helpful. One of them told me to call first thing in the morning so wait time would be less which was helpful to know.
AHS sends local contractors and I live in a small town and everyone has been really nice. When my refrigerator was going out, AHS sent a guy who was super nice but he left a massive mess in my kitchen. There was black greasy strip all over every surface of my kitchen. I mentioned it to American Home Shield and also to the contractor. He said he wasn’t aware of it enough, but he’s the owner of the company, so he should know. But I just got a new refrigerator out of AHS. We started having problems with our A/C last summer. For the third time, we had to activate our insurance to get somebody to help us fix the unit as it was not cooling off. There was a leak somewhere and the Freon was escaping so we had to replace the Freon. The sad thing about it was that the Freon cost a fortune. It actually cost us $700 and that was almost like having no insurance whatsoever. Since American Home Shield doesn't cover Freon, we didn't have any claim to submit. They called me about the appointment, I paid over the phone with a credit card, then the contractor came. He was great and helpful. He charged us and that was it. I felt like if the other person that American Home Shield sent when we had issues months ago had been this thorough, we wouldn’t have had an issue to fix now.
We've been with American Home Shield for five years now and in the past, we had problems with their reps not being very helpful on the phone. The last time was a good experience though. We went through the automated system and everything was fine. But the insurance could be better. It is a costly price to pay them on a monthly basis and when we needed them the most, they didn’t pay for the Freon.
Also, I got frustrated a couple of times in the past as it was difficult to schedule an appointment. American Home Shield sent a contractor but they would not show up. We had one contractor before who finally came and tried to sell the new unit at all cost. They were quite pushy and I did not appreciate that. But the hard part was that I had no oven for three weeks. I had to figure how to use anything but an oven. Other than that, it was great service and we were very happy that they fixed it. Thank God, the oven is working now. I don't even think twice now and I just turn it on. Dealing with AHS was great. The rep was really nice, exceptionally understanding and patient. We had some leaking in a fridge at previous times and he was able to fix that too.
However, I had a bit of a hard time when we were waiting for one to two weeks period because if I would pay somebody else, they would fix my issue that day. Nonetheless, I have a contract and I know someone's gonna fix it at some point. Anyone in the position would be going crazy having a broken something. With the water up to the sink and you can't use your sink other than the bathroom sink or your hot water tank broke and you have to wait a week for a new hot water tank. These things are frustrating to wait for, but as long as it is not dangerous, we know that someone's gonna fix it without having to pay a $1,000 down payment, just for them to come to diagnose it. And because I have a contract, I have that security of knowing that someone's gonna fix it. It's frustrating when we have five little kids at home and you need things to work but you just can't do without it. We're very happy with AHS. It's $55 a month, which is a lot of money, but it's worth it.

But once the contractor came out, he fixed our AC quickly and it has been working great since then. Overall, it was a good experience.

I had an issue with the washer so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I've gotten in contact with their contractor within 48 hours and I’m scheduled to have a repair done today. We also had a plumbing issue before and the contractor came out, did the work, repaired the problem, but he had to go through the drywall in order to reach the existing problem.
According to our contract with AHS, any accessibility to the plumbing issues will be covered and that AHS would repair that to paint grade or do a rough finish. Obviously, the plumber’s not gonna do that. The plumbing repair was done over a month ago and we’ve still yet to get that drywall repaired. I just talked to AHS today and they offered us a $100 deductible buyback in order for us to contract the work ourselves. And they would reimburse with the $100 service fee for their service. I opted not to take that route because that's the whole reason I got the home warranty, to have these things covered. So, I’m still waiting to hear back on when that repair’s gonna be done to the drywall. The hole in the wall is not aesthetically pleasing, but it doesn’t impact our daily activities. It’s just an eyesore.

I looked into home warranties and everyone had bad reviews on the Better Business Bureau and many websites. My friend had a home warranty with American Home Shield, he recommended them and said that he had so many good experiences with them. Now, I have been with American Home Shield for three months. I had a leaking outer faucet and the water heater was not working and was also leaking. So, I submitted a claim to AHS online and it was very easy and smooth. Then EASY Plumbing came and replaced the water heater and the faucet. They were very polite, nice to talk to, and they explained to me how the process works and how much time they’re going to take. After the repair, I haven't had any problems at all. I am very satisfied with AHS' service, so do not go by the reviews. Surely, everybody has something that is not written in those reviews.
Great Manish! We are happy to hear that you have been satisfied with AHS. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week!
