American Home Shield sent Mister Fix-It to repair our air conditioner. It was leaking Freon. The guy from Mister Fix-It was out here the same day that I called AHS to submit the AC claim. He put his gauges on the outside unit and it’s low on gas, and I said that the unit was 34 years old. So I’ve been babying it. I also have him come out and do a check twice a year. Having my AHS warranty on my property is worth it. You never know when something’s gonna break down, especially with mine. I have an ancient house. And AHS is saving me a whole bunch of money instead of having to put in a brand new AC unit all by myself. I’ve got my mom hooked up with AHS, too. She just got it over a month ago, and it sounds good for her.

We had a Samsung which I thought was a really good washer and we couldn’t get it to balance so we called American Home Shield. They sent a tech out within a few days and the tech said that the part that would fix the washer would equate to a brand new washer. And so, he deemed it unrepairable. I’ve got four kids and we had laundries stacking up so from that point, I went out, purchased a new washer and went through the claims that way as we purchased. And then, American Home Shield did a reimbursement.

However, we didn’t hear a word from the time that the claim was submitted to receiving a check. So, I called in and lo and behold, the day later, a check came in the mail. They did not cover the entire cost of the replacement but it’s better than nothing and it was appreciated. They did everything that they were supposed to do. That was our first experience and it was positive. We learned a long time ago that having an insurance like American Home Shield is better to have and not need than need and not have.

We don’t know what may or may not break around here, and we didn’t wanna take a chance and have it to come out of pocket. I was told that American Home Shield has good coverage on things and we've been with them for about six months now. Luckily, we've only had one issue. Submitting the claim was easy to do too. Somebody called me right away and we set up the time. The contractor came out and looked at the dryer. The heater core had gone out and once they ordered the part, they came back and put it in.

They showed up on time, were very friendly and clean, and didn't leave a mess. They also explained the process and knew what they’re talking about. We’ve had people in the past who have come out when we were remodeling the home and some of them were rude. Some of them didn’t explain what they were doing so it was a nice, refreshing experience. We've had good experience with American Home Shield and I would tell others to call and check with them. I would also advise to ask lots of questions and see what their deductibles and monthly cost are before signing on anybody’s dotted line.

I moved in my new property and the lighting was not working. American Home Shield sent out an electrician from one company. He came, removed the lights and then said he couldn’t fix it because it wasn’t covered. So I replaced the light on my own. But it did not resolve the problem apparently because it happened again a month later. There are two main lights in this room and the other light stopped working as well. But when I called American Home Shield, they said it's been more than 30 days of that initial claim so it wasn’t covered anymore. It would be another $75. They sent somebody else out and he fixed the light and hung it properly. But I was disappointed that I had to pay the service fee again. I feel like every time I would call them, I would have to pay $75 for some reason. I wouldn't discourage somebody from the warranty but I would want them to be aware of what specific coverage they have if it is their first time using a home warranty.

American Home Shield is a reputable company and in general, they are doing fine. I've used it three times and they always answer the phone and check my information. They're helpful but they can't tell me for sure if something is covered without knowing the details of the problem. But whoever the service provider has been has gotten in touch with me within a day or two. So it seems quick. I also called American Home Shield for the air conditioner once and although they sent out someone three times for that, I only had to pay once. $75 versus a thousand dollars, which was what I would have spent, was very good. So American Home Shield has helped and in that sense, I'm glad that I have the Home Shield coverage.

My dryer went out and it was easy to submit a claim with AHS to get it repaired. I just went online and filled up the claim form. Then somebody called me and scheduled to come out and fix it. I've done it over the phone before but it takes longer and you have to give your credit card information and the computer stores it. I have five children, so I’m in big trouble without a dryer. But the contractors came out relatively quickly, right when they said they would and they got in there a little kit and they took it apart and fixed it, cleaned it, and put it back together. The dryer was back up and running right away.

I filed two claims with American Home Shield recently--one was for a ceiling fan in the attic that wasn't working and the other one was for the condenser unit. It was a good experience submitting claim and they were pretty timely. They got somebody out to look at the issue and when the contractor made the assessment, he left and then came back for the repair work. The contractor was professional. However, the next day, my main unit wasn’t working. I did a little investigative work, and when I went outside, the breaker was tripped on the main unit at the condenser. So, I just flipped it back on and it’s been working ever since.

He tried to explain to me and I tried to retain whatever it was that he told me so that I could go and tell my dad what it was. Now, it should be fine as everything is still working.

I had an issue with my air conditioning system at my Paso Robles house. I called American Home Shield and the contractor they sent was excellent. He came right out, didn't dilly-dally and fixed the problem. The job was very well done. However, at my mom's house in Bakersfield, we had a broken dishwasher and the tenant there called. AHS' contractor said they would be out in two days but then they called the tenant back and said it would be more like a week. It took him over two weeks to get his dishwasher fixed.

Still, Bakersfield was an isolated problem. AHS and their contractors totally get the job done. To me, the reason I have the warranty is so that I'm not waiting. Sometimes, when I call a company, they say that they're booked for weeks. I would have guessed that the benefit of AHS is that they have the ability to contact different contractors. If we have an air conditioner break where we live, it would be critical that the technicians will be able to get out to our place. Overall, AHS works well in certain cities, but in others, it doesn't.

When the pool pump broke and I submitted a claim, my experience went great. Watertight Pool and Spa called me immediately and they did a great job. I highly recommend them. The only thing with AHS is the wait on the phone but as soon as I put the claim in, their service is very timely. I should do it online but my work does not let me. But all in all, American Home Shield's service has been excellent.

I submitted two plumbing claims to AHS online and the challenge was with the notes. It gets lost in translation. You have to select one specific thing that might be wrong with your plumbing but I'm not a plumber. The first time I submitted a claim, I had an issue trying to get them to understand what exactly was wrong. The second time I did it, I didn't really try. Nonetheless, Gates Plumbing came out and they were fine. They showed up on time, had a good attitude, knew what was wrong right away and took care of the issue. They sealed the leak we had and it was the best experience I've had with AHS. Nobody had to leave and reschedule a week out. They just did the work.

We had a claim for the toilet that wasn’t working correctly. My sister called American Home Shield to find out who were the plumbers and when they could get here. I called the plumber the next morning and left four messages throughout the day but I never heard from them. When my sister got home from work, she called AHS again and they contacted another plumber. He came out the next day and was a nice guy. He had a little boy with him who might have been his son. The plumber took care of things within 15 minutes and that was the end of it. Other than him, we’ve had the air conditioning and the heat people out here, and they’ve all been fine. I went under the house and I freshly laid some limestone as a moisture barrier. I noticed a wet spot on the freshly laid rock that indicated that the pipes were leaking. Two leaks were coming from the main drainage line. There was one directly below a toilet and one on the outflow pipe from the house. I called American Home Shield's 1-800 number and requested a claim. The representative I spoke with was very fast, professional and efficient. There were 24 total hours to two calendar days that elapsed to schedule the appointment, and then one or two days for the service tech to come out.

When the technician from Edmundson Mechanical Services came out to our home, my wife was here and she said that he was very friendly. He was early as opposed to being on time, got everything fixed up, found a couple other leaks that we didn't notice and fixed those on the spot as well. He did it all in one day. And while I have not yet investigated since then, I have no indication that the leak still remains.

My dishwasher wasn’t working properly. Whenever water was coming from the sink, it would go into the dishwasher and come out to the floor. I used the mobile app on my phone to submit the claim and the payment portion was simple to follow. I made the payment with my credit card before the technician came out and it was practically painless. I got a call the next day, which was within the allotted 24 to 48-hour timeframe, then the technician was out within two days.

The contractor came within the time window that he gave me and was pleasant. He explained that there was something wrong with the way that the dishwasher was hooked up. He was in and out within 15 minutes and the dishwasher was good to go. This was my first time having to use the warranty and the experience was quick and efficient. So far, I'm happy with American Home Shield. They were recommended to me by other people and I have told others about it as well.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. One was taken care of really great which was the second claim and it was done in two days. As for the other claim. I first made the claim on June the 7th and by June the 12th they notified me. They were supposed to call me within 24 hours to make an appointment but that never happened. I made a phone call myself and I left a message because there was nobody there. They did call me back and a service guy came out, looked at my dish machine and said he gotta order a part. However, up to this point the service company had never notified me. I called and they said they were waiting on a part. I said, “I’ll go get the part and I’ll have it here tomorrow.” And they said, “Oh, no. We gotta get it from AHS.”

I understand that they all have to do that to determine the cost, so I know that they would rather have their own part. However, when I finally called AHS on the 26th of June, they said that the contractor, Service Plus, received the part on the 21st but I still haven’t heard from them. This machine has never been fixed and they’ve already charged me the $75 call pay which I expect to get back. Now, I don’t know how long I’m supposed to wait for a repair. If Service Plus doesn’t wanna do the repair, AHS should get me somebody else, but they said they can’t do that. Service Plus is the biggest problem. With service people like that, they wouldn’t last long under me. It doesn’t do AHS good to have a service company like that and I don’t need their poor service. They are letting me wait this long for my dish machine.

Now, I’m almost at the point of calling a friend who used to work for me and have him drive 100 miles to my house to fix my dish machine, and he’ll do it for nothing other than I’ll go get the part. I am really frustrated and I'm very dissatisfied. Nobody can tell me when it’s gonna be fixed and I have no idea if it’s really gonna be fixed. I’m 81 years old and I can’t really stand up at the dish machine and wash my dishes. I’m so close to tell AHS to take their contract and put it where the sun doesn’t shine.

Since I renewed American Home Shield, their claiming process has been much easier and quicker. We just call and say we got a problem. And 99% of their reps have great customer service, listening to the problem and understanding that we’re having issues. So far, it has been good. The first issue we claimed for was for the pool that turned out to be a cracked valve. The guy from Splash Pool tried to fix it but it didn’t work and he told me that the crack was too big and they’ll just replace the part. Within a week after that, the pump started to go. He had to order the part and I understood that it had to get approval from AHS. I liked the personality of the guy. He was quick and great. He stayed in contact with me and allowed me to text him and find out what was going on.

We’ve also gone through air conditioner issues. It was hot as hell in Oklahoma and the guy was supposed to fix the air conditioner. It took them a week and a half but still didn’t fix it. We had a second opinion and had a guy out. He finally found out was going on and the guy pulled it through. I’ve had friends who switched to AHS and have been extremely unhappy. People complain about the long draggy call and AHS takes long to get back to them or wait around to have somebody show up. But for me, it was convenient as I was a stay-at-home mom in the beginning. And right now, my job is flexible so I can schedule around.

When AHS gives you a number of somebody to get a hold of who's gonna come out and do the job, they have really good people. They're very reliable and they do a great job. My only issue is when you call AHS and if you want to speak to somebody, it takes a long time to get through them. If you call up and you use their electronic system cause you know what you're calling about is covered, that's simple. But if you have to speak to a human being, you are in trouble.

I called today, and in my sink when I turn the water, I could it turn on for about 20 seconds. And then, for some reason, the pipe that the water's going down to fills up. So, I have to turn off the water and then wait a few minutes and the water goes back down like I’m told, and then I can use the sink again. That's a pain in the neck and there's gotta be some reason the water's not flowing like it should be down through that pipe.

I was not sure that was covered in American Home Shield. When I tried to use their system, it gave me these options. But, that was not an option, so, I had to ask a person. The person's name was Angel. And Angel's first language is not English. I had to repeat myself over and over to get through to her. At one point I said, "Angel, I'm sure that English is not your first language. So, if you could send me to a supervisor, and that person could put me through somebody whose English is their first language, just to save me a whole lotta time." Instead of sending me to that, she put me on hold. And she had put me on hold so many times. It took 36 minutes, that if I had somebody whose English was their first language, it would have taken three minutes. So, that was frustrating.

I've had AHS since 1999, so I'm very familiar with them, and I've had great luck with them. I really didn't have any complaints except they have to do a better job of making it seem to get to a person who is knowledgeable quickly if it's something you have to ask a question about. But I'd still recommend AHS. I have a lot of people that use them and have them because I told them about it.

Today is July 11th and a company was supposed to come today to my house between 12-2 pm, I confirmed with the company Blue Ribbon and they stated they will be there between 12-2. At 2 PM I called to find out when the tech will be coming, I was told that AHS needs to call them for prepayment before they can come.

The rep (Ralph) I spoke with stated he will give me a call back with an update and never did. I called AHS again at 3:30 and after being on hold for 45 mins, I spoke with a rep and after explaining the issue for the 10th time, I was told, “Hold please” and then promptly hung up on. I called back and spoke with (Teshira) who huffed and puffed and said someone will call me in the next 4 hours and have a company come out on Friday the 13th. That is 2 weeks from when the call was escalated and yet AHS claims that customers are very important to them and they strive on customer focus. As it is evident from this request that is not the case especially when I have 2 kids under the age of 5 and the daily temperature is over 90 degrees.

I called back to dispute the claim from the first repair company. They sent out a second company who replaced my hinges. It was not a bad frame after all. My oven works just fine now. A specialist that monitors this site kept checking up on me to make sure things went smoothly. It took longer than I expected because the warranty company kept messing up my phone number or not giving it to the repair companies. But at the end of the day my oven was repaired. It was a rocky few weeks.

    Original Review: July 11, 2018

I recently bought a new home. Upon my walkthrough of the house I noticed everything seemed to be working fine. A month later closing was completed. I walk into my new home and realize the oven light is on because the door will not close all the way. I call the home warranty phone number and they send a technician out a few days later. He determines the frame is bent and assumes someone put something heavy on it or sat on it. As per their contract they don't cover preexisting damage.

So I'm out $75 dollars my first week in the house and they won't repair or replace my oven. I've had other home warranty companies in the past and they have been very helpful and I always felt they wanted to make my life easier. But this company calls you, verifies who you are and before you have a chance to ask questions you are hit with contract references about how they are not liable. I understand how contracts work but compared to my experience with other home warranty companies this shouldn't be someone's first choice. I'll be going with another company when this warrant that came with the house expires. Be warned and double check everything before you buy the home or you will have to bite the bullet.

AHS call agents did not understand my steam boiler problem 3x. It was a leak in the pipes but they sent mechanical (air conditioning) companies to fix my leaking heating unit. Although I explained the problem of leaking water in a very detailed way, pleading with them to send someone right away, the call agent only would contact mechanical companies that could come out 48 hours later. When the mechanical company came out, they said, they can't fix this because it is a plumbing problem, and they stated that on the work order, it only said "steam boiler does not work", and hence AHS sending the AC companies.

The very last time I called AHS about this problem, I insisted vehemently to send a plumber for my steam heater problem. They were confused, but the last person relented and set up an appointment with a plumber. I do not understand why I had to call 3x and why AHS will not easily take into account customer's input about what kind of contractor is needed. It has wasted 2 days' time, many calls, being stuck at home waiting for contractors, lots of headaches. AHS failed to "protect my home".

Updated on 09/11/2018: AHS has not proven itself to be a dependable nor professional service company. This has been 2 months since my baseboard heater/boiler leaking issue and it has not been fully resolved. When I had called American Home Shield in July, they had scheduled 3x an air conditioner company to fix my baseboard heater/boiler leak issue, but it was a *plumbing* issue. The people who received my call would not schedule a plumber, so they sent an air conditioning company who did come but told me, they are not the right kind of company to work on my boiler! This was a waste of their precious time, when so many people were without air conditioning at that time. (And AHS did charge me the $75 for this 1-minute visit!) So I called American Home Shield again, and they scheduled me with ANOTHER AIR CONDITIONER COMPANY, even at my insistence that it was a plumbing issue.

Finally when they were convinced that they should dispatch a plumber, they were unable to dispatch one until 4 days later. It was a Thursday and they said the next available company could come Monday afternoon at earliest. I told them my boiler is leaking and causing damage already, but AHS dispatcher said, "Sorry Ma'am, that is the earliest we can schedule your call." Upon my insistence to know, they only have 2 plumbing companies to serve AHS customers in my metropolitan area, one of which is based in a different state! AHS advertises "You need a guy, we have 14,000". I find, this is not true. I need a guy, and they have 2, and one can't come until 4 days later...

So with much frustration and adamant insistence, I was able to be get to an "OA", or outside authorization referral, which meant I could call my own plumber because American Home Shield was unable to dispatch one in a reliable time, given my leaking boiler that was damaging my basement wall and floor! The plumber I called came in 30 minutes, fixed the trouble wonderfully. I spent $500 and submitted the outside authorization that same day on 7/13, and it is 9/11 and I am still waiting for the reimbursement. A nice lady calls me every once in a while from the media affairs dept because of my post, to check up on me, and tells me, 'be patient, that department is slow'. Needless to say, I don't have much confidence I will be reimbursed since it has been TWO MONTHS. AHS itself as a middle-man company has not proven itself to be dependable nor professional.

I have paid the Home Warranty of my new home for 1 year and 4 months. I requested a service for the first time because the AC of the second floor was not working properly. They sent a technician who said the AC unit needed to be replaced (apparently it was too small?) and he told me American Home Shield would call me in one or two days. Never happened. After two weeks I called them, finding they have a terrible customer service and again, after 1 hour in the phone, they told me the case was in the authorization department and somebody would call me in the next 2 days. Nobody did.

Almost 1 month after the initial visit I called again and now they tell me from the very beginning somebody should have told me they would not cover it because the AC is not broken, is just that is too small for the house. I get it. They only fix something which is broken to start with. But I would have appreciated if they told me that on day 1. My advice: if you have enough money to pay for the home repairs in an as needed base, you do not need to go through the headache of dealing with people who make profit from denying claims (by the way, a very successful business in the USA).

After requesting HVAC service from AHS, it took over a month for the contractor to get ahold of me, which know is not AHS's fault. After the contractor came out, they fixed one small thing and left. This did nothing but cost us $75. I had to resubmit the claim, which it then dispatched another contractor out to us. This took another month to get finalized after 4 different trips to my house. Again, not 100% AHS's fault, but even after all of this, it is hard to tell what exactly gets covered and still had to pay +$600. It is very hard to reach AHS on any of this, as well.

"You are not going to be responsible for nothing," but when they got invoice from contractor they want to fix my AC and I have to pay $900 for Freon, I told them I do have all proof what they told me but AHS is not believing me and they do not want me to speak supervisor... UPDATE - After multiple complaints through telephone, Facebook, Consumer Affairs and the Attorney General AHS did send me a check for the "Cash out" value of the replacement for the hot water heater in the amount of $605.00. This of course does not come close to the actual cost of the repair which no provider would do for less than $1900.00, but at least the funds helped us recover some of our out of pocket expenses.

    Original Review: July 11, 2018

We purchased a home 2 months ago and I paid over $600 for a top of the line home warranty with American Home Shield. A little over a week ago our water heater failed, leaked and caused our downstairs ceiling to collapse. We contacted AHS for an immediate repair and over a week later the matter remains unresolved because of the following: AHS uses substandard vendors in the area. The first vendor called out for the job never showed up. The second vendor arrived with an attitude saying they "don't make any money off AHS repairs".

The vendor quoted us a cost of $900 out of pocket for the "covered" repair! This was in addition to the $80 due to AHS for the deductible. The vendor stated the water heater needed to be brought up to code and this was the extra expense. I found out with a simple web search that anyone, in any state, with any water heater using AHS for a repair is told by the vendor it needs to be brought up to code and property owners pay between $650-$900 out of pocket, even though an expansion tank and misc items needed for "code" cost under $100.00.

AHS doesn't care how much of an emergency a covered repair is. We are waiting and waiting to get them to have someone give us a second opinion. They have what they call a "cash out" option which means they give you about $350 and you pay the full price for the water heater install yourself, which means even more out of pocket to you. AHS doesn't covered related water damage, so the hole in my ceiling will be an entirely separate out of pocket expense. I have to leave the hole in the ceiling until the water heater is replaced and running to make sure there are no additional leaks.

This type of insurance fraud should not be allowed. The $600 I paid for the warranty should be refunded to me in full or AHS should be required to cover the entire cost of the water heater with me paying for only the deductible as the plan is marketed. NO ONE would spend $600 + for a warranty if they knew that they would be required to come out of pocket $900-$1000 to use the warranty.

July 1, 2018, My home sprung a water leak, I requested service via online. Paid the fee on July 2, 2018, Plumber was called out but unable to come out until the 5th of July (1st plumber too busy). Called back for another plumber, #2 which they came on the 3rd of July, picked off the temporary patch I had put on the leak to prevent more damage. Then they applied "plumber's putty." Stuff you put under the drain to seal it but not good for pressurized water volume, so now it has damaged sheetrock wall. Had a quote of 1754.00 under foundation repair.

AHS denied the repair based on a clause in contract. July 5th called AHS For a refund for service fee, was told I have to wait for "Cash in lieu of service department" (on 5th they were processing service calls from the 1st of July 2018) to call me 7-10 business days of submission from service contractor. Which was submitted July 5th to get my money back. So that would leave me until the 12th of July to talk to them then another 5-7 days to receive payout. (Keep in mind pipe still leaking). I called yet another plumber (#3) and he fixed it in 3 hrs, and $80.00 in materials and $75.00 service call fee. On July 9th 2018.

Never had this much trouble with any warranty company. I hope to receive enough money to repair the wall that was damaged for waiting so long. PS. I shut off water when it was not needed, but I also have 2 teenagers, who need showers, food, and clean clothes so water was on and off for a maximum 3 hrs each night for personal hygiene and cooking... "Bottom line" DON'T BUY AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. Do more homework when it comes to home warranty companies when buying a home. Thanks for reading.

Updated on 08/04/2018: Yes. After contacting AHS three times I was able to get problem resolved, I am still not satisfied with quality of customer relations and speed of service from "American Home Shield". If I had to wait 25 days for the repairs to be done it would have been catastrophic to my home's foundation and interior walls from water damage. If AHS had to wait 25 days for payment AHS would suspend or cancel the warranty agreement. Once again our service request was placed on 7/03/2018 - AHS called it a "forced payout" for repairs. Did not receive compensation until 07/28/ 2018.

Even with my opinion I am glad to have a warranty to cover some of the cost to offset what I paid out of pocket for this issue. I just revised my homeowners ins coverage to $200.00 deductible. I am willing to pay that than go thru AHS again for any issue. And I was able to get appliances, plumbing, and Ac systems covered thru ins company. So ask questions on coverages, what they are willing to insure. I know from experience I can count on my INS company to move faster on any issue.

I am very disappointed in American Home Shield. On Friday June 22nd we reached out to them so they could send someone out to fix our AC unit. At first they acted like they couldn’t help us until we called back during normal business hours. Finally after calling them several times between Friday night and Saturday we decided to use an outside source to fix our AC units. (Note we looked into our providers that would be covered under the contract and none of them was close to us... like two hours away and they also didn’t offer AC service after hours). We called back in and got authorization to use an outside source. They told us to call once the technician was onsite and get approval. When the technician arrived he called and waited for 20 min on hold just to find out that he would need to wait 45 min on hold before he would get assistance.

No company is going to wait that long on hold. I mean it’s the middle of summer, this is busy season for these guys. So he went on to fix the AC and we paid him. We called back in after he left and they told us that they needed someone from repair shop to call in so they would be able to reimburse. They have since called in and American Home Shield still says they won't pay after they told us they would once the repair shop called in. They continue to tell us that they can’t reimburse since the provider didn’t call in prior. But they have a voicemail that states that if we have called in after hours to fix whatever the customer needs and call back at a later date!

Now skip forward two weeks. We have received a letter from American Home Shield letting us know they will not reimburse. After the repair shop has called and we have called well over a dozen times. Every time we call we get a different story. Sometimes we call and get pleasant representatives but most of the time it’s lame excuses. They even charged a service fee for sending out a provider that they never sent! So now we are out over $500 not to mention the monthly payments that we make to this “waste of your time” company! I would not recommend American Home Shield to my worst enemy. They give a bad name to all home warranty companies.

I've spent 8+ hours on the phone (LONG HOLD TIMES/DIFFERENT RESPONSES from different AHS CSR). I'm still waiting for this to be resolved. I'm doubtful it will ever be resolved. I was hearing a sound in my AC. I submitted a claim and Total Air was the company that was assigned to me. They already came out last year to service the same unit and they put a coolant in. When I tried to make an appointment for the claim I filed this time, I got their voicemail. A lady then called me back the next morning and she told me that somebody will call me back. But nobody did. A week passed and I called them back and asked them if they could set up the appointment. They then came out but they didn't do anything to the AC.

The guy who came told me that he can't fix the sound and that going by the numbers, the unit is okay at the moment. Then, the second time I made an appointment with them for the outside AC unit whose fan is not working, I called them as soon as I got the text message from AHS letting me know that somebody would contact me within 24 to 48 hours. I told them that I can't wait a week for them to call me back to make an appointment. The rep I spoke said yes and set up the appointment within two days, which was awesome.

We also had AHS replace our water heater last year. We were confused by their process because they came and brought us a smaller water heater than normal. They just added an attachment to it at the top. I was like, “Why did you take my 80-gallon tank and put in a 50 with a 3,000 server house?" It was insane. But the guys told us that it was AHS approved. And I actually think we have more hot water now.

We've been happy with American Home Shield. It's very valuable to us and we couldn't live without it. We’ve had so many things happen which we didn’t think would ever happen. So the $50 a month that we pay to have that assurance that if we needed anything, we can have it and only $100 deductible is amazing. It would have cost us a lot more than that to do all the things that happened so far. Also, the contractors they have sent have always been great. I highly recommend American Home Shield. I've already told my neighbors about them.

But because we have a lot of smaller servicing agents that work out of this area, it’s not too bad.

AHS is very easy to use. But the experience with the contractors depends on which ones. We’ve had some difficulties with electrical as far as appliances. We had a vendor come out from Dublin that was not a good experience. The last one with my microwave was also not great. It took about a week for the vendor to come back and fix it. And then we ended up having to pay extra money because he had ordered parts and then had to replace a whole microwave. But as far as the other appliances, for my washer and dryer, we always get Sears to come out. Also with the AC, AHS always has a very reliable vendor come out. We’ve been with AHS since 2006 and never had a major issue.

I submitted the claim online and I got a text and an email from American Home Shield. I finally heard from the company that AHS was gonna send out in a day or two. The tech came and opened the dryer up. He brought a part and put it in and he fixed it. It was all taken care of in one appointment. It was prompt and quick and I was very happy with that service. It made me feel like it was worth having the policies through AHS for that. However, I was struggling with my water heater since January. We could have fixed it easily, but it was unfortunate for me. The water heater is a dual fuel system something and I just kept at it. I was hoping for the guys who installed it to come and take a look at it, but they were not lenders of AHS, so they couldn't do it.

Eventually, AHS agreed to let the guys who installed it come and take a look because there was nobody else who knew anything about it. It's a tankless water heater that fills my furnace. The guy came in and he deep cleaned something. He said, "This is not a good part. I might have to replace it. Hopefully, this will work," and he did it. The water heater has been working since then. I'm glad American Home Shield helped me out and I know that if it's a noncomplicated issue, they will be all over it. I just wished that they had told me that they didn't know what to do with the heater and to go with my guy at the very beginning. But I'm still with AHS and I believe they provide good service.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield that still hasn't been resolved and I can't seem to get a callback or a response from them about a leak in my ceiling downstairs. I called on multiple occasions and all they tell me is that they’re gonna put in a request. I never get a call and this has been going on for a couple of months. The contractor that they used, Hers and His Plumbing, never turned in their report, which delayed me getting a second opinion. I had two opinions and they were both different. I requested to use someone else because the same company came out twice and gave me two different opinions. Then, I called my home inspector, which was separate, that I paid out-of-pocket to look and he told me a different opinion. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I'd like for them to send someone else out and they told me that I can't use someone that I’ve already used for that opinion.

They’ll have to send someone but Her's and His Plumbing has to turn in their diagnostic report first. That has been the past 30 days and they were supposed to turn that report in within 30 days. AHS had to call Her's and His Plumbing several times to try to get the report. I haven’t been pleased with this plumbing company at all and requested for them not to come back out because the first time their guy came out, he told me that he couldn’t identify the leak and that I just had to keep watching it. There was nothing done. About three weeks later, the same leak happened along two different areas in the ceiling. I've been sitting with two holes in my ceiling for over two months and still sitting that way. I just got back from vacation and I was hoping someone from AHS would call soon.

I had two claims that happened at the same time and the other one was for my stove. AHS said that I had cancelled the appointment for that one but that was not true. I need to cook in my oven and would never have cancelled the appointment. Someone was supposed to call me back because they were supposed to listen to the recorded call to see if someone from American Home Shield's side cancelled it. But no one ever called me back for that one. Ultimately, that claim ended up getting fixed. A service technician came out and did his job with the stove.

Also, when you call AHS and press a certain number to say that you're checking on a claim, it just automatically hangs up on you. It has been very frustrating. I had to call back several times and sometimes, I trick the system and go to accounting or billing and tell them that I needed to check on my repair. We bought four houses and we're not even 40. So, we always get home warranties for whoever is buying our house and we always get one when we are buying our own and we definitely won't use American Home Shield again.

The air-conditioner wasn’t cooling in the house and the contractor AHS sent did very well but at one point we had some kind of a scheduling conflict. It was my fault one time and kind of his the next because he was covering such a broad area. It was hard to get an exact time when he and I could be there. But other than that, he did a great job and fixed my issue. I’ll tell others to sign up as quick as they could with AHS.

Page Refrigeration came out many times for my AC claim and I’m still waiting on them. Both of my AC units upstairs and downstairs wouldn’t work when I first turned them on this season. While we finally got the bottom one working, this will be the fourth time out for the AC guy. We finally figured it out that there was a leak someplace in the line from where it comes from the condensers to the upstairs unit, whether it’s underground or in the house. And we’re going on three months without air conditioning upstairs in the heat of summer.

There has been a miscommunication with American Home Shield regarding this issue. They gave me a new contact that I didn’t know about so we basically had to start over and explain to the rep what’s going on. And I hate that in the middle of something. They said this has never happened with anyone and that they are working on the issue. So I asked them, “Why are you letting it happen with me?”

In the meantime, I can’t even go upstairs where the shower and the bedroom are so I have to sleep on the couch downstairs. And on top of this, I’m trying to sell the house. When people go upstairs to look at it they can't stand the heat up there and they have to go back downstairs. It gets up to 110 upstairs and we’ve had heat indexes in Oklahoma up to 110. My real estate agent helped me get this warranty with American Home Shield and I thought I had a policy which covered everything in the house. But when my refrigerator broke down, I found out I didn’t have the policy I thought I had and I had to pay for the refrigerator.

They referred me to Hanson to fix my AC. The contractors found the problem the first time they came out. AHS said the amount to fix the problem was okay but then Hanson never called me. I had to keep calling AHS until they finally got to Hanson. Even so, Hanson still took about a week to come back and fix the AC issue. Nevertheless, the AC is up and running now. I recommend AHS. American Home Shield has been very easy to work with but unfortunately, they have no control over the people that come out to service things. However, George, the owner of George Morris & Son, was wonderful. Our AC unit was not working and I filed the claim with American Home Shield over the phone. George came out, narrowed it down to the thermostat problem and he replaced it. The unit’s been working fine ever since. American Home Shield was excellent and I’m very happy with them. Within a day, it was approved and he came back out and fixed it. There was one other part though that he didn't realize was broken but he was able to fix it right away. I would use this contractor again if I had to. This is the first home we've owned and with my husband being a trucker who is always gone, I'm happy with having a warranty. Recently, AHS sent people from A&G Rooter who were prompt and professional. They diagnosed the problem and determined that it wasn't actually a problem at all. So, before they cut holes in my ceiling, they were able to identify what happened and there wasn't a need for any cutting work done and they were upfront about it.

He looked inside the dryer quick and then basically said that he thought the dryer bin was the problem. He said that I should have someone else come out to clean it. He didn’t even look in there, he just assumed that was the problem so he wasn’t too positive in that regard. I ended up just buying a new dryer the following week and it works a lot better now. And then when I needed to use the service, they told me I couldn’t even after they had told me multiple times that I could use it for that particular thing. At this time, I wouldn't be able to service my heating and cooling system.

There was one positive experience I had. I recently submitted a plumbing claim and going through the claim process was fine. I did it online since it was easier, and I didn’t have to be on hold for hours at a time. Any time I've ever called in, it was always a long wait. The contractor was good and now, we can use our bathroom, which we weren't able to use before. But still, I'm only sticking with AHS because I've already invested so much time and money. We have a 28-year old air conditioner and it wasn't working. We submitted a claim via American Home Shield's website and the company that came out and looked at it was very helpful. They found the leak in the condenser. However, the big issue for us was that the unit is an 8 SEER and we would rather replace it than fix it. But that wasn't how it was written up. We were offered $260 for our air conditioner. We're probably gonna bypass AHS and get our air conditioner replaced, and discontinue our contract with them by the end of July.

Another challenge that we had with AHS was, we got charged the $75 fee the time we had a claim after the hurricane. The call center in Houston was not open and I waited three different times over an hour and a half to try to talk to somebody. I even had to give up because I had other things to do. And then when we did get in touch with somebody, they finally got somebody out to look at our air conditioner. However, the company that they sent out lied about calling us. They were supposed to call us prior to coming out but they never did. And they claimed they did.

My wife and I had no missed calls, and there were no missed calls on our home phone. And they charged us the $75 anyway. It became a big ordeal. We contacted the lady who was here in Florida over AHS and she told us that she would reimburse the $75 if we had the air conditioner looked at again or on our next air conditioner claim. But we already had our first air conditioner replaced and we also had to come out and do our second air conditioner, and we still got billed for the $75 service fee. So she wasn’t responsive to reimbursing the $75.

I haven’t done anything else with AHS because I’m fearful that I’m gonna pay the $75 and not get the service that the homeowner that owned the house prior to us had paid for. I haven’t notified him because I know he will come back to AHS to get his $600 back, because he was very upset after our first incident. I will not recommend them to a friend.

Our AC wasn't cooling the house and I went online to submit a claim which was easy enough to do. American Home Shield responded quickly but I wasn't happy with the contractor they sent. When he came out, he said it was a new unit and told me that he went and hooked up the gauges but it seemed like there was plenty of pressure so I probably have some other issue. He was half right because I did have another issue. I needed to put insulation in the attic and since putting 16 inches of it, I still have some issues with the unit cooling the house on hot days. But the things he said were probably wrong such that the duct work didn’t have any insulation on it. It was not true since it was insulated really well so he really didn’t get a pressure reading or do anything else. He just made a determination that it couldn't have been Freon and he was done in five minutes.

I didn’t file another claim because if I paid another $75 to have a guy come out, I'd have $150 in it for somebody doing nothing. Then, when I go to the website, I can't see anything but "You want to file a claim again." I don’t want the same company out here for another 75 bucks. But aside from that claim, I also had a locksmith come out to change all the locks and that went well.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been okay, but I don't like the turnaround time for the contractor to come out. Sometimes, it could be three to four days before they can get out there and fix the problem. Instead of using a plumber or electrician in the local area, they use somebody in Montgomery and that’s about an hour from here. But for the most part, the contractors are professional and knowledgeable about what they are doing.

I recently had a problem with the air condition that was leaking in the attic and I didn’t know it was leaking outside, too. I just noticed that yesterday. The techs fixed the issue in the attic, but they didn’t check the outside of it in the main system. It was fixed the same day, but they only checked one system. They should’ve checked the one on the outside unit too because it’s running on the same system. I still got that leak and it could be the cause of more damage. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is really good to have and I’ve recommended them to several homeowners.

I've been a realtor for 30 years and I've had American Home Shield for years but it's not working anymore. I have 15 houses and I once called in for an oven to be fixed in one house. American Home Shield was supposed to order a part but no one called my tenants back. No one touched base with me either. There was another time that they replaced the hot water heater but they didn't wanna do all this other work. There was $1,900 of work for a $400 hot water heater.

When an AC unit was not working, I had a problem with the guy from Arring's AC and Heating Service. The AC unit was not working correctly and on the first time Adam came out, he cleaned something. But it didn't work so the tenants called me back. Adam went out there again and said the AC was not working because there was not enough insulation in the attic. But that wouldn't make sense. These tenants have lived here for a year and a half, and we've not done anything with the insulation in the attic. The house may not be insulated as well as it should but that was not why the AC wasn't cooling.

Adam argued with me and the tenants, and I told him I was going to call my AC man, whom I've known for years. My AC guy went out there and as a matter of fact, he's going to replace a part and fix the AC today. Adam was full of crap and my poor tenants have been hot for a week. AHS should reimburse us for the part my AC guy is going to put on because we couldn't get them to do anything.

I've also had things done over the years but when I send my people out, they're like, "Oh my God, who did this?" It shouldn't be like that. The work should be done right. So I haven't had any good luck at all. The contractors who are going out there probably don't know what they're doing. But then American Home Shield hasn't been very helpful either. A few months back, there was a hot water heater that was leaking and American Home Shield's contractor couldn't get there because it was Mother's Day. So I had my other guy go out but when I tried to get reimbursed, American Home Shield denied that because their guy didn't go out there first. So it's like a fight every time. It's been a nightmare. Besides, I've had contractors go out in the past and when I sent in the receipt, American Home Shield reimbursed me for the parts that they cover.

The representative I spoke with said she would ask the supervisor and she was supposed to call me back. I even called back twice but they never returned my call. It's like a full time job for me to get American Home Shield to pay for anything. The tenant also said that the AC guy really had a lot of problems with the warranty company paying for anything anymore. I doubt whether we're gonna be renewing the warranty on any of these houses anymore. In fact, I have five checks but I'm getting in touch with the owner and recommend not to renew the warranty. If I'm gonna be paying 5,000 on all these houses to renew, I can have all the repairs done instead. We're just gonna use our own contractors and be done with it. I don't even have the warranty on my house. It was built in the 70's and I'd put a warranty on mine if I thought it would even be worth it but it's not.

I continued to tell A-1 Quality that the problem was that after a period of time, our AC's blower would stop blowing air but they never addressed that issue. When they installed the new compressor which was the last thing they did over a period of four visits, it stopped working again. We called in again. They called me, and the dispatcher was on the phone with me and she was gonna send a different guy out to take a look, and she was telling me that I’m setting my thermostat too low. And I’ve never heard of that so we were having a small debate that the coil is 40 degrees less than the setting on the thermostat and you freeze the coil. The coil will freeze if you’re not blowing air across it.

She got the owner of A-1 on speakerphone in the background, and he was listening to her. He was not talking directly to me and he started to make all these yelling noises in the background. And I was not really getting it completely clear and I stopped, and she didn’t say anything. And I heard the owner berating her for getting into a debate with a customer on the phone. I haven’t used foul language and I haven’t done anything. I just wanna get my air conditioning fixed. And I was having a debate with her and she was gonna schedule a guy. She hangs up on me. So, I immediately call back and leave a voicemail and say, “Hey, I hope you’re okay because it sounds like he was yelling at you at the end there, and I don’t think you were being inappropriate with me at all.”

When I opened yet another case, A-1 refused the case and it went to the next people and Climate Pros started on it. A new guy from Climate Pros came out and that was visit number five. So, I’ve had six visits so far but my air conditioner still does not work. And the last guy who opened up the unit said when he installed the compressor, it arced and it was blowing the circuit. So, he was saying it damaged the entire unit because he installed it in properly. So now, I’m waiting for American Home Shield to approve a complete replacement And Climate Pros is telling me that American Home Shield’s going back and forth with A-1 because they want them to warranty their own work. And Climate Pros is saying they're not gonna warranty A-1's work. They need to warranty their own work. So, I’m caught in the middle here.

I have a wine room, and I had to go out and buy an air conditioning system. So, I’m out of $700 for the wine room AC that I had to put in to save my wine. It was fine for it was something I was considering doing. It’s an eyesore but we were able to regulate the wine room by keeping the house cool and blowing the air into that wine room. I had surgery almost two weeks ago and as of right now, I’m recovering in a house that’s 90 degrees. And I’m still waiting for word from AHS that they're approving the new company’s recommendation. The previous owners put in a 5-ton compressor with a 3-ton furnace. And AHS is recommending we gotta balance it because that was the original problem. The two units are not balanced.

I’m beside myself. We’ve been doing this for two months going back and forth. We’re a worst-case scenario, and I spent the extra money to get the best home warranty money can buy and I feel AHS has dropped the ball. They don’t have somebody managing this case. Every time I call, I have to start all over again through the menu system. And they won’t transfer me to a supervisor. So, every time I call, it’s a 45-minutes to an hour and 15-minutes phone call. And I called probably 10 times and I’ve picked up the phone every day for 14 work days now in a row. I have a side business as a consultant and that time is money for me. I’ve been calling the guy from Climate Pros instead because he actually picks up the cell phone and I can talk to a human. He gave me an update this morning saying AHS was asking him to provide details on exactly what equipment they want to install. So, my hope is that they’re gonna replace the whole thing.

The air condition in my bedroom is supposed to start when the temperature on the thermostat goes beyond the range. So, if I set the temperature to be 75, it should start at 76. But, what was happening was that it was starting when it got to 78 and 79 and then it would run all the way to 74. So in the night, it got very hot and we were getting disturbed sleep. And it’s a fairly new system because it’s just two years old.

Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was very easy to do online. However, I was not very thrilled with the contractor. The person who came looked very adept, but he looked at the thermostat, opened it up, removed the fan and said the ball bearing in the fan was gone, so he replaced the fan. But the decision was made quickly without doing a proper diagnosis. Plus he replaced the fan with some local company and we don’t know the durability of that brand. If it goes out after a year, then we’ll end up doing the service again. So, I insisted that he use the same brand, and he said, “I don’t have it. You either take it or you don’t.” I didn’t have a choice because my air conditioner was broken.

Also, his whole handling was not very neat because of a lot of scratches that he created on top of that. Beauty doesn’t matter, but the scratches now could have caused rust on it because it is exposed to water from rain. Even after that, my problem was not solved. It has definitely improved over time, but my air conditioner still sometimes waits till 76 or 77 before it starts. Ultimately, we made an internal arrangement to address that. We have started the humidification to be set so that it doesn’t go as high as 75 or 79 because there’s another preserved for the humidification.

We asked them to come back and take a look at it, and they gave me a time when they were gonna come, but they came three hours before that and they insisted that they wanted to check it when they were gonna be at home. They also insisted that they would look at everything, and they said everything was fine and they left. So I’m not at all happy with the whole experience with that company.

You can call them when you’re out of town or you have to cancel and you can reschedule at the night before and there has never been a problem. But they always seemed to be Johnny on the spot. They’ll call on the cellphone and contact me and let me know what is going on and when they can come and they are just great. I have no complaints about them.

The contractor who came out was very nice and very pleasant, and he did everything. This was a redo for the icemaker because we found out that the water was also running into the ice bucket and not just the little flask that it runs into. It was making one big gigantic block of ice, so he came back to fix the washer too. Now, we have ice again. He did a wonderful job.

American Home Shield is doing great. It’s a little expensive and it would probably take an eternity to try to get a new appliance, which is almost impossible. But for the service that they provided, they do a very good job. I would tell my friends to go with American Home Shield. If I need things to fix in my house, a regular service call is gonna cost me an arm and a leg. I had my ice machine replaced when I first got here and that was over $200. In the long run, AHS is cheaper and it is nice to know that I have the security of just picking up the phone and knowing who is going to fix it. I don’t have to mess around with Sears or Home Depot. I can also call them for numerous things in my house. It is great. And if something happens to it, I can call them back out and they will come back out without another service fee, which is fabulous because sometimes like those happen.

I had a person from Wolfer's come out to clean my furnace to get ready for summer. He told me that the pan that has the condenser above it in the air conditioning is for the water, but it shouldn’t be full of water. When I looked at it, it was full of water. He poured water in there and then he put bleach as well. He then said that the pipe that goes out where the water is was not draining properly and that it was draining underneath my house.

So I was concerned if I wanted someone to come out for my furnace and see if the water was draining underneath my house. I had several people for the furnace coming but nobody ever said anything about that except the guy from Wolfer's, who's not under AHS. I asked him how much would be the overflow valve cost and he said about 300 bucks. I told him that he needs to get that water out, but he said that they normally don’t do that. But then I said that since he poured the water in there, he should take it out. He did take it out at the threat of me. But I was still concerned so I called AHS in order for the furnace people to come out and check to make sure that there wasn’t anything wrong with the condenser and that the overflow was not going underneath my house, because I've had plumbers and people from the furnace go under there and they have always told me that the underneath was dry.

When I filed a claim with AHS, they had somebody set up and then we made an appointment and the contractor came out on the day of the appointment right away. So, that was a good experience. A guy from NW Sundance came out and he showed me where the overflow valve goes out of the house next to the air conditioner cooling unit, which is on the other side of the house. We traveled quite a bit and it was downhill. He came out and cleaned everything up and I didn’t have any more problems. I trusted him because he showed me everything that I needed to know. He said that everything was normal on my furnace and that I didn’t need to worry about it. I was secure in the knowledge that there wasn’t anything going underneath my house and that the condenser unit was not overflowing like the guy from Wolfer's tried to tell me.

I'm not going to call Wolfer's anymore. I would call NW Sundance since they were very good and I liked their product, even though their yearly fee for checking everything out is more expensive. I get a senior discount so it would come down to $149 down from a $160, and I'm willing to pay that extra just for peace of mind. I have older appliances and so I use AHS about two times a year. There has been a couple of contractors sent by AHS that weren’t very good but I haven't seen them come out anymore. I'm happy with AHS and I would recommend them to other people.

The day before July 4th my air conditioner went out. In Texas right now the temps are averaging 100 degrees, every day! I called AHS, to report and was given a service company called Meyagies to repair it. I immediately called them that day and was able to get them out there on Thursday the 5th. After the service repairman diagnosed the problem he said he would have to get an Authorization from AHS to do the repairs. I called Meyagies on Friday morning to make sure this was done. Their service tech did not turn in the appropriate paper work to get it authorized and the dispatch had to call him to get him to send in the Easy Sheet to AHS for authorization. I called AHS later that day to see if they had received the paperwork and they had not. I called Meyagies back and asked them to resend it.

In the meantime I still have NO AIR CONDITIONING SINCE TUESDAY AND IT IS NOW FRIDAY!!! I was told by customer service rep with AHS that she would call me as soon as service had been authorized. Today is Tuesday the 10th and I have still not heard from AHS or Meyagies Heat & Air Service. I pay over $800.00 a year for the contract with AHS and this is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I paid my $75.00 call out fee and I pay my monthly bill. Why can't they provided a simple service within a reasonable amount of time??? I am going to cancel my contract with AHS and will share on every public posting I can to let people know how they did an 84 year old widow in the 100 degree Texas heat.

By the way, I called a private company on Friday and the young man came out and put 4 lbs of Freon in my unit "FOR FREE!!!" to try and see if it would hold me until AHS called... So, I decided to go with his company and they came out today "Tuesday" and fixed my air conditioner. I have wasted enough time with AHS and needed to be able to sleep in something other than a 100 degree home. SHAME ON YOU AMERICAN HOME SHIELD FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AN 84 YEAR OLD WIDOW...

I have had AHS for approximately 6 years. 5 years ago the well pump went out and American Home Shield replaced the Pump the next day after I contacted them, about a year later the A/C went out. A tech came out the same day and determined that the compressor was out, 3 days later the condenser unit was replaced. Jump forward to July 2018, I contacted AHS on July 2 and put in a claim that the A/C is now freezing up. Arctic Air was contacted by AHS, they contacted me and said they would be out on Thursday July 5, late AM, they did not show up until late AM on Friday, July 6.

The tech said the return air duct was not big enough, the expansion valve is sticking and the coil needs to be cleaned. He left without doing any work. It is now July 10, AHS called and said the claim was denied. My question is if the return air was good enough 4 years ago why is it not good enough now? Meanwhile 8 days later we still have the same issue. I am seriously considering stopping my coverage for AHS as I have sent them a lot of money in the last 6 years and now when I need them to cover something that I am paying for in the warranty it is denied.

I was charged 2 $25.00 overdraft fees as the funds were not supposed to come out of the previous account information. I called back to get the payment info fixed and decided to cancel the warranty. I have called 5 times and spent a total of 6 hours, not including the 45 min I have currently been on hold trying to get it fixed.

Currently I am being told it was NOT AHS fault and they will not give me a refund or cover my fees after I was told the opposite 2 days ago if I faxed in proof. I was promised a call back for cancellation 3 times within 24 to 48 hours and have not heard a word and customer care PROMISED a call back as well and never did. Updated on 12/26/2018: I am finally cancelling my American Home Shield insurance today after years of terrible service. We have a plug in our sewer line and AHS took 3-4 days to send someone to our house. Finally when the plumber came, they said that insurance will not cover removing the toilet to "snake through the pipe" and put it back and it will cost us $600 out of pocket. In front of the plumber, I called a private plumber who told us that insurance should cover it and that the most it would cost is $250. We had to reschedule and it caused another delay for us. AHS and their associates do everything they can to frustrate you and not get the work done. EVERY TIME you call American Home Shield you are on hold for at least 1 hour and they give you problems about fixing anything and covering it. DO NOT BUY.

Original Review: Our AC has been broken and AHS sent out a technician. This technician spent 5 minutes at our house, was extremely rude, and left without fixing anything. He told AHS that we have a missing filter on our AC and he refused to service the AC. The filter is not required, however AHS is siding with the technician's flawed diagnosis and refusing to cover the AC under warranty. This is the same AC that AHS contracted to install and serviced last year.

AHS placed me on hold for 80 minutes then hung up on me without warning. They are looking for any and every excuse to deny warranty and they do not care about their customers. It takes at least 20 minutes of being on hold to finally speak to someone, and when you do they repeatedly place you on longer and longer holds in hopes that you would hang up. Terrible company, DO NOT PURCHASE WARRANTY FROM THEM. They do not care about their customers.

Here I am, almost 1.5 months after first initiating a claim on my busted refrigerator, and it's still leaking on the floor and not cold. I thought this was the type of thing insurance was supposed to protect you from - not cause! But here I am, still making monthly payments, waiting on service techs, unable to justify buying a new fridge out of pocket due to hundreds already sunk into this "service" and living in a veritable third-world of room-temp icebox and bumming space in friends & acquaintances fridges because this so-called "American Home Shield" seems only able to shield me from getting in touch with any single real person who might be able to help.

Never mind that the "Service Contract" "protects" me, or that the replacement of broken appliances seems to just never quite happen, and service techs seem to just never quite know if it's, you know *really* broken or not (wink wink!). If they ever come through on this fridge, I'll update my review - so you know if you're reading this I'm still drinking tepid water somewhere! Bottom line: if you're thinking about signing up for American Home Shield, save yourself the time and just buy someone you hate dinner to the tune of about $50/month.

    Update: 08/20/2018

Well, AFTER I posted a 1 star, negative review, I got a "social media" specialist from AHS calling me every week or so. A lot of help that did getting my refrigerator fixed except it's still not working properly. AHS: "No problem! just go back on the site and request another service call!" That'd be nice, except every time I get to the final page on the site now it says "An error has occurred." And won't submit or schedule the fix.

So, just to review: My fridge is still broken after 2 service visits and over a quarter of the year. I have sunk hundreds into AHS in monthly payments and now cannot even schedule a service call to try to continue the process of them sending someone to "fix" the fridge. I have still sunk too much money into AHS to justify going out and buying a new fridge myself, so, that's where they get you. I'm sure I will have a "social media specialist" "reach out" to me about this post over and over, again, my previous review is marked as RESOLVED! because someone DID finally (after a month) come out and get the freezer working again, for a week, but now it's out and I can't schedule another service call, AND I can't edit my "Resolved!" review, so there is this illusion that this company is actually taking care of people. I just have no words at this point.

    Update: 09/05/2018

The title says it all. Overall timeline of my experience is as follows: 05/23/2018 was date on which initial service request for the fridge was made. There have been 2 service calls by AHS contractor and the fridge was fixed on neither occasion. The 3rd service call was scheduled for 8/31 and cancelled by AHS contractor on 8/30. At this point, fridge is not fixed, nor has AHS begun the process of replacing, nor have they made any effort to expedite the service process (>3weeks between each service visit). Don't waste your money.

I usually don't write ANY reviews. Don't have social media, don't leave Yelp reviews. But god damn...this place had me pulling my hair out. I'll try and make this as short as possible. I was given a home warranty package when my Wife and I bought our new home. $75 deductible to have a specialist come out and attempt to fix any issue/appliance in your home. If it can't be replaced, AHS would reimburse a cash-in-lieu payment (max limits on certain appliances). Week 1 - called about a simple faucet leak. Local plumber comes out, takes 5 mins and determines the faucet needed to be replaced (broken cartridge). He reports his findings to AHS. After days with no response, I called AHS to follow up. At that time, I was told I needed a 2nd opinion before the faucet could be replaced.

Week 2 - 2nd local plumber comes to home. He takes one look at the faucet and determines it needs to be replaced. When I mentioned to him he was the 2nd plumber in 2 weeks sent by AHS, he laughed and said "These are the games that they play". Plumber sends his report to AHS. Week 3 - Multiple calls into AHS about my cash-in-lieu reimbursement. Put on hold for 20-30 mins at a time, and sometimes HUNG UP on for no reason. Lol. After multiple calls, one AHS rep told me they never received a diagnoses/report from the 2nd plumber. I called the local plumbing company, who stated that they had sent in their report multiple times without acknowledgment from AHS. The receptionist at the plumbing company said, "I have to deal with AHS every day, they are the worst". LOL.

Week 4 - More calls to AHS about my cash-in-lieu payout. Given the run-around. Being told that plumbers report was never received and that they would look into it and call me back. LAST thing I'll say. If you ignore my personal experience, listen to this. I called BBB and Consumer Affairs. They both stated that they receive multiple complaints such as mine in regards to AHS. They said "We are sorry you have to deal with them" and urged me to never use them again. Bottom line - if you have a simple repair that can be performed by a local specialist, they'll fix it. If an item is broken and needs to be replaced...you are **. Their business model is to wear you down until you give up and ask for your $75 deductible back. STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!!!

I had an AC issue last June. American Home Shield sent A1affordable heating and cooling and they addressed the issue well. But I had a service call come back because the pipe was leaking from the furnace that goes to my drain, so I had water in my basement and then, the air conditioner went out. I thought it was the furnace, so when I placed a service call to AHS, I said "Furnace" instead of "Air Conditioner."

The guy from West Michigan came out today said that it was the air conditioner and he didn't want to fix it. He also said that I needed to make another call and have a recall for A1 to come back. So, I had to still pay the $75 which I’m not happy about and the girl I had talked to said they couldn’t refund it. When I tried to call back and wanted to speak after the guy was there and wasn’t gonna fix anything, I was on hold saying the wait time was less than five minutes and then I got cut off, so I had to start all over again. And when I finally got back to where I was when I got cut off, they said I have an over 30-minute wait and I had to do a callback. It was frustrating.

He looked at the unit and was able to resolve the issue on the spot. A couple of filters were added and the unit's been working fine since then. The other claim I had with American Home Shield was for a pool pump and I thought the unit was covered. When I renewed the warranty, I added a spa on the dropdown menu. But what I’m calling a spa is not what they considered a spa. The contractor came out thinking that it was a spa that I have in my bathroom, not a Jacuzzi.

It didn’t matter whether it was covered or not though. I just wanted the thing fixed. But they didn’t even look at it and said it wasn’t something I could do. They also charged me $75 rather than just say it was not actually covered. I had a problem with that and I was really frustrated. I can also understand how maybe there’s a difference between a spa and a Jacuzzi but they couldn’t even give me an estimate. Maybe they didn’t have the right skillset. Then when I called American Home Shield, I was told there was nothing they could do. But outside of that, American Home Shield did fine the other two times I used them and I’m happy so far.

I own three properties that American Home Shield has taken care of and they're actually easy. They're in the process of fixing one right now on one of my properties and they’ve gotten through finishing one of my other duplexes, and they did a great job. I just call them whenever I submit my claims and when I deal with someone in the United States, it is fine. But when I dealt with someone out of the United States, it is horrible. American Home Shield itself is a great company, but every time I deal with someone out of the United States, they don’t get it. They don’t understand my rentals.

I have two duplexes and they have two different addresses. One address faces one street, which is Karlsberg, and the other one faces another address, which is Kelley. They keep telling me that that they're not gonna cover the other property and I keep telling them, “No.” If they pull the address up on Google, it is one property and that American Home Shield covers it. But if I call and talk to someone from the United States, they tell me to not worry about it and that it's covered. And they take care of it.

The contractor was wonderful. Galloway Appliance had worked on several of my issues in the past and they are fabulous. They come in, they clean up after themselves, and they take the product back. They are very respectful and very kind. They call me when they're on their way, they call me in advance when they set up the appointment, and they make sure it works for me. They worked on my washer and dryer. We had a hard time figuring out what was wrong with my washer and dryer and I wanted to keep my washer and dryer because I didn’t want a new one.

I kept calling them and saying that it was still having a problem. They said that whatever it was, they'd figure it out. They didn’t get upset with me when I kept sending them pictures showing them the problem hasn’t been fixed. They came out three or four times before they figured out what the problem was and they fixed it, and I don’t have problems with my washer and dryer anymore. They were very patient with me. And this last time, they couldn’t get to my trash compactor to repair it, so they let me get my guy out here to fix it so they can get it out. They're coming back again and I don’t have to put another hole in my cabinet.

They were respectful and they cleaned up after their mess and they communicated with me, unlike the plumber that was sent out at my place to fix something. I don’t ever get frustrated with Galloway Plumbing and I like them. I also like the fact that when I get frustrated with some people I'm talking to on the phone, I instant message American Home Shield and I can get through to somebody that will take care of my issue. When I was frustrated when I was talking someone in another country, I was able to instant message somebody saying, “Hey, I'm frustrated. Can I talk to somebody in the United States?” And they said, “Yes. Call this number.” I like now that when I call, they'll call me back and it's not a long wait.

I can always, within 24 hours, have a contractor go out rather than just a handyman. And that’s what I like about American Home Shield. It's the contractor that goes out. I would definitely recommend AHS to a friend because sometimes it takes the hassle out of things not knowing who to call and you just call American Home Shield. It's a one-stop shop. I've also already told Galloway Appliance I would recommend them to anybody even if they weren’t through American Home Shield.

I called back and got a second opinion. Then, AHS sent Randall and Sons out, and the technician ended up fixing the sink. But the water pipe from the washer is still not fixed. So now, I’ve been battling in trying to get somebody to come back out and re-fix it but it has been a nightmare. I was supposed to hear back from somebody on Thursday, this was round three, and I still have received no phone call, my issues are not fixed and this has been three weeks now.

I had called back again and suggested not to have Freedom Plumbing back out. I was on the phone fighting forever with that and I’m still nowhere. I still don’t have anybody coming out to fix the water pipe. Also, American Home Shield was trying to tell me that they can’t recall a recall and I just went on and I asked why do I have home warranty? Why did I buy a home warranty package if they can’t fix my issues? I just got my house in May. It is July now and I still can’t use and do anything with my washer. We had to rip up sub-flooring in my utility room and lay new flooring. It has been a little bit of a disaster working with American Home Shield. I am very dissatisfied.

It’s a little aggravating when they advertise that they are a home warranty company and then I’m fighting and puling teeth trying to get my issues fixed. I’ve been told two or three times now that I will receive a call back and I have no returns. I asked for direct lines but they said I can’t have anything. So, it’s very hard to contact. The person who came out also thought it was the same. He said that he did what he could to fix it and that he put in a list for parts to order if it happens again. The problem is the company that's coming out to fix it is a completely different company because the first company couldn't come out right away. So I feel like it's gonna take a long time for them to fix it because they don't have access to the parts.

He came back about two days and did it. Since then, all is well. The toilet's performance is satisfactory. I've been with American Home Shield for eight years and they’ve always been good. I have been with American Home Shield for about half a year now and we've had a good experience with them. Submitting a request to have contractors come out was very easy. I did everything online. And when I submitted a claim for an AC issue, the contractor who came out was very professional. The AC was blowing hot air so he took a look at it and knew the capacitor was bad. He replaced that and it has been fine ever since. Furthermore, he explained everything that he did and said more than I needed to know. I had an education in air conditioning fixes. Also, it took him longer to get here than him repairing everything. All in all, it was the first time I had to use American Home Shield and everything went perfectly fine. So, not that I look forward to using it again, but I have confidence that if I need to, it will be just as seamless.

There was something wrong with my AC switch. It was a Friday when the AC went out. I was at work and I called AHS to submit my claim because I did not have my information at that time to log in. Initially, when we did the claim, there was supposed to be a company and AHS said that they would come in that Monday. Also, they said that if it was an emergency, they would come in in that weekend. It was in the 100s and my house was so hot so I called back and I said, “Could someone do it on the emergency basis?” And the AHS rep took about 30 minutes calling every company she could to get someone out to repair it. She was excellent. The contractor that came was very good and he answered all of my questions. He was a little bit difficult to understand because he had an accent but he pointed out some things that I needed to do in the future, which I have done. The AC has been working perfectly since the repair.

The only thing is I did not know that you could request an emergency repair. Going in, if the AHS rep could ask, “Would you consider this an emergency?” That would have been efficient because if I would’ve known that at the time that I made the claim, then I would not have to call back. Other than that, I have recommended AHS. I've told others about my experiences and though I cannot vouch for any other home warranty companies but I could vouch for American Home Shield.

There was a leak in the faucet. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I told them I wanted someone to come because I was not sure. I wanted them to check all the faucets in the bathrooms, especially the master’s and then the hallway, the faucet in the kitchen and in the bathroom downstairs too. The disposal was also not working so they had to change it and the toilet was flushing all the time. The contractors came. I didn't know what they did, if they fixed it or not, but they got the signature from me and they said it was fixed. And after they left, I saw it was still a bit leaking. It’s not that much. It’s the same thing as before - every minute, one drop. I called AHS and they sent another guy. He said that it was good. The third guy came out and he said everything was okay. Then AHS sent the invoice for $75.

Some of these technicians just work from their house. They say they are the company but they are not. They don’t have any experience. They come and they don’t do a good job. So when I asked AHS to send me the people which I worked with before, they said the contractors do not come to our area anymore. But when I called these people, they said they always come to our area. I don’t know why American Home Shield doesn’t let me have the same people which I had a good experience with before.

Like this time, I asked AHS to send the plumber that I had that came from Glendale, but AHS said no. AHS said they had to send me some other company and that was why they put me with these people. And these contractors came and I still have the issue with them. Then American Home Shield sent me an invoice for them. I had no idea why they still sent me the invoice because they charged my credit card after the contractors left for the first time. And these are the issues I have with American Home Shield.

AHS' reps did what they could do but when the contractor doesn’t answer his phone or feeds them something, they would go by what they hear from him. I had a claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning and the people who came out were here for 30 minutes. They looked up in the attic and then they went to the back. They asked if my air conditioner was on. When I said no, they asked me to turn it on and they started filling it with Freon. When I asked what made the Freon leak out, they told me the caps were loose.

They came on a Monday and by Thursday, it was hot again. So I called AHS and they told me that as their policy, they can't send somebody out unless it's 105 or greater. I then called the company that came out before and told them that it was still hot in here. They said that I had to call AHS so I did and made the request. I then called the company again to ask when they can come out and they said not until Tuesday. So I had to wait the whole weekend. And then I called Monday to make sure they were coming on Tuesday. The company said they received the report from AHS the night before Tuesday so they can't come out. I insisted that it was the second report and that they told me last week that they would come first thing Tuesday morning.

Eventually, they were able to set me for Tuesday as the last appointment. They sent an older guy and I told him that they said they replaced the caps. So he called the kid that came out before and he said that it was what he thought where the leak was. But he didn't troubleshoot at all. The second guy did the troubleshooting and he was out here for an hour and a half in the heat. He found that the hole was right in the middle of the air conditioner where something was rubbing against it and so he had to repair the pipe and it's been cool since then.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, which I always do, for my Air Conditioner and it all went fast. They tried to get somebody that night because my elders live with me and my husband has a heart condition but they were unable to do that. So my dad stayed up most of the night watering down the air conditioner to keep it cool enough so that we could run it for 15 minutes before it shuts back off. And then, he would wait for about 10 minutes and water it down then let it run for 20 minutes until it again shuts off.

Eventually, AHS was able to schedule me for the next morning and the contractor from Troy Heating was very good. He went out to the backyard and addressed the problem quickly. He replaced a part of the air conditioner and put some insulation. He was polite and friendly and got the job done fast. The air conditioner has been working good now. I wish I could use Troy Heating often but AHS said they couldn’t because they had to be fair to everybody else. Nonetheless, if I had a bad experience, I’d tell them that the person has not been good inside my house so they would have to get somebody else. Overall, American Home Shield was able to get somebody out fast especially in emergency situations so I’ve been recommending them to everybody.

It’s the part where the water goes out of and he said that I need to have that part. There was also an issue with my microwave oven and the tech told me that it was the door on my microwave. He took pictures of the part when you close the door and the part when you open the door itself. He told me that I needed the piece inside the microwave and not the door itself. So I said okay.

When the guy came back, I thought he was coming with both parts. But it turned out that the part on the inside of the microwave was broken and that I also needed a new door. But he didn't have the door there for me at that time and it would take another week to arrive. I had to wait another week for the right dishwasher piece and the door for the microwave to arrive. I only use my dishwasher on Sundays or holidays because that's when I mostly had company over, and the tech came back right in time for the holidays. Even though I had to wait an extra week, everything is working fine now. The dishwasher and the microwave got fixed.

I left them at one point when I was at another house because I wasn’t happy with their customer service. I paid all that money and I never did a claim then when I did, they wanted to tell me that they won't cover my AC because it was rusted. But all AC units will rust if they've been at a house for 50 years. I was very unhappy with that so I went with another company but I wasn’t happy with them either. So I came back to American Home Shield after asking a lot of questions. They are much better now and they have been easy to work with so far.

I called AHS for my AC and they sent a contractor out. First, they attempted to repair the AC unit but it still wasn’t blowing. When the tech came back, he said the motor was gone at that point. Then they notified AHS that the AC unit was not repairable. The contractor was good and also quick in diagnosing the issue. We weren't without air for too long. But when you sign your own contractor, American Home Shield would send you a check for partial and it took five days for them to call back to let me know about that. I was anxious because we didn’t have air and it was so hot here in Georgia. I kept calling them until they finally did the numbers. But that aside, everything was good.

We had a plumbing issue and we submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield. A 50-year-old copper drain pipe coming out of the sink upstairs had a leak in it. The plumbers that were sent were able to determine what the problem was and they got it taken care of. And then after that, they found there was the cast iron piece coming out of the drain that was a leak and they repaired that. But it’s been almost a month and they still haven’t repaired the drywall so I’ve got a big hole in my ceiling.

The air conditioner had been on for a long time and never really cooling down the house. It’s an older unit, so I expected over the last couple of years, it just diminished. The coolant level eventually just drops and it’s been some years since we had recharged. I went online and submitted it. We usually just call in but the hold time is terrible. It was easy to do it online since it filters out unnecessary steps and it doesn’t allow you to click on a blender or something, so it’s good.

After I filed the claim, I asked the contractor to delay it because we weren’t gonna be in town. And then I called them and said we are. I had a child that was sick, so then I was home. So they were super accommodating. It was the owner who came out but it was scheduled by one of his dudes. It was great. The owner was super-efficient and very thorough. He told me that the air conditioning unit was still good and asked me to check it out in a month. If I notice a significant change, then he would come back and recheck it. Otherwise, it’s like a helium balloon and stuff comes out. He also told me that it can’t be justified putting in a new system if it takes years for it to drop in pressure and that was fine.

We’ve had American Home Shield since 2001 in a home in California and here. And then we just recently sold that home. So, we’ve had it in Lincoln for 6 years and we’ve had it in Bakersfield up until this last year. When we released our house, I told them the warranty needed to be cancelled. And it took four months for them to acknowledge and the policy was no longer valid because it’s no longer in my name. I kept contacting a representative and he said it he would put it on a note and it usually takes 30 days. I got notices in the mail and my email and since I don’t own the property anymore, it was an invalid contract. I’m not gonna pay for a contract for some other home. But other than that, AHS has treated us so well.

Over time, I noticed that it has been longer and longer to wait on the line because they simply don’t have as many call centers anymore, which was logical. Since that one experience when I told them to stop sending me notices because I’m not their client anymore, I wanna stay their client. I told the representative that I wanted to give them my business, but now I’m annoyed. We still had another contract and I told him not to touch that one but get rid of the one in California. He said he was doing it right then and that was what the last five people said. But it was fine and I was not angry enough to drop them as a consumer. American Home Shield has been excellent.

It’s probably Friday at 4:00 every time I called and they were like, “Well, I did my job. I’m gonna go home”, and I don’t blame people for that. But in the end, I would always say that it should be noted. When they say that it was being recorded, I would tell them that was good and to do that because that was evidence of a conversation and they don’t have to start from square one every time. It’s awesome. I literally tell people that I don’t bother with another company. There were months when I sat there and thought about paying my AHS bill because we need it and I looked back and thought about why we pay for it. American Home Shield has never let us down. They have always done what they say they were gonna do and that is the truth.

AHS sent a contractor to our home in February 2018 to fix our AC. The contractor replaced the capacitor and we paid $455 out of pocket for freon. A yearly maintenance company that we paid for came out to clean the condenser and discovered that not only is the unit leaking freon but it freezes up when turned on. We reported this to AHS and they sent another contractor from a different company this time. This contractor made me aware that the guy that came out in February did a poor job and did not properly diagnose the problem.

Long story short, he replaced a few things on the unit but to do that, he had to dump the entire freon. We paid again for freon and this time, $525. I spoke with authorization department and a manager named Shamika and made them aware that this is all the same problem from February and we should not have to pay for freon and another service call fee of $75. They could care less and speaking to them was a waste of time. I have reported them to BBB and will give them a bad review every chance I get. I am also considering every option to have that $525 and service call fee refunded. I wish I could give them a zero.

Updated on 08/31/2018: This is regarding my AC unit. AHS has been giving me the runaround and they have not been able to diagnose my unit since February 2018. They insisted I pay for Refrigerant after they changed the dryer and filter inside the condenser which I did. My AC is still freezing and the repairs did not correct this problem. They have refused to give me a refund on that and have sent every technician to my house. Once they cannot diagnose the problem, they pass the buck and tell me they need a second opinion. This is more like the 10th opinion now. Some technicians they sent over will lie and tell me they will change the compressor and others the evaporator coil only for me to find out they have not sent any diagnosis to AHS. I have complained numerous times but no one seems to care.

My first bad review that I gave them here promoted a call from their so called social media department. The person assigned to me called to get different technicians pretty much and all of a sudden she went on vacation and has been on it ever since. I feel like they called me just so that I will not continue to give them bad reviews. This is an update to my previous review and things are worse now. I don’t understand how I have a home warranty company and my AC has been freezing all summer which leaves my house with little to no air, I paid $455 for refrigerant in February and $525 in July.

Stay away from this company if you can. I have paid them for a good number of months and will make sure that they fix my unit no matter how long it takes. All they care about is getting your money and maybe you will get frustrated and cancel the service. Well, I will make sure all that money I have paid is put to use. Stay away from them and find a home warranty company that will do what they say and care enough to get reliable and experienced people working for them.

I requested repairs for my refrigerator on June 22, 2018. On the 25th, serviceman advice me that my compressor was out. The requisition was not submitted until the 29th. First of all, whoever was responsible for submitting the requisition in a timely manner certainly should have made the request for order the same business day. Second, AHS should have immediately approved the order and I should have had been able to use my refrigerator for my 4th of July party! Instead, it's now the 9th day of July, and I’m still without my refrigerator.

I worked 40 years at post office, so no one can tell me how long it takes for delivery. There was enough time for my compressor to go around the world twice, therefore, the error is with the company’s. If AHS is so backed up with requests, then hire more staff to approve funding the parts since you increase your yearly fees every year. Secondly, if your contractor is overwhelmed with calls, add another company to serve the customers that you promised speedy service to. As far as the contractor waiting 12 days for a part, that’s simply lousy managing. You’re supposed to stock up on parts that are proven to break frequently. I’m two seconds from finding a new company after this and I’ve already paid my service fee!

I have had a refrigerator & dryer issue for over 2 months. AHS assigned a contractor who never bothered to reach me to schedule an appointment. After making multiple calls to AHS, AHS finally got them scheduled. Contractor came in and told me that he has ordered parts for both the appliances. Contractor & AHS do not follow up on status and I call them every 4 days to talk to a new representative whom I have to explain the entire problem to every time. The dryer part is available in any local store so I know that it is just poor management due to which I have this inoperational dryer. Very frustrated with the service. Will discontinue my contract as soon as these 2 appliances are fixed.

After 45 minutes on the phone and more than 30 minutes of those being kept on hold, I was told the authorization dept didn't want to take my call because the tech had not send in a detailed email regarding the matter and as of right there wasn't anything to help. They said, they contacted the tech and told him to email the claim in details which will be tomorrow. Why not today? And why hasn't anybody told the tech that the description wasn't detailed enough? Why hasn't anybody update me, the consumer, in any way or form? Nobody knows!!!

When asked to speak to a manager and again being put on hold, I was told no manager was available to take my call. It is middle of July, with heat waves and what not, and there is no sense of urgency to help out a customer. This is my first ever claim and I can't believe the customer service I am receiving. I, too, signed up because of their online reviews so I am hoping this is one off and they make it right soon but as of right now, I am beyond upset and frustrated!!!

I bought my place two years ago and was gifted the first year of AHS coverage. My place is 15 years old, with all original appliances, which is part of the reason that I decided to get a home warranty. I hadn't needed to use the warranty until recently when my A/C compressor was struggling to keep up with cooling the 100-degree heat. I submitted a claim online which is an extremely easy process. They almost immediately sent me a text confirmation of the contractor that would be doing the work. When they came over, all was good. They diagnosed the problem and explained the situation. I was told that it would take a few days to order and receive the compressor, and then another few days for the installation. What I was surprised to find out through a friend that is a licensed HVAC technician is that my compressor is pretty common, and should be readily available in most warehouses. That's where one of my AHS frustrations come in.

Next, I called AHS, was placed on hold with their irritating customer service people, transferred to another holding queue, re-explained the issue, and again put on hold. The third time, the automated hold message indicated that the expected wait time was over an hour. I'd recommend that AHS take a queue from many banks and retailers that have a call-back function. Also, I've noticed is that AHS barely pays the contractors, so their motivation to complete an AHS claim isn't a priority. It also incentivizes the contractor to include "add-on fees," that AHS won't cover. One example from my situation: the HVAC contractor says they'll install the new compressor but will need to charge a $220 "pipe modification fee" in order to install it.

I spoke with my HVAC friend and he stated that the pipe modification fee is just in case the connections on the new compressor are in a different location as the connections on the old compressor. He admitted that it was a BS fee. To me, if AHS is going to claim that they cover the installation of the compressor, they should cover the entire installation to ensure my system is properly working as it was prior to the unit malfunctioning.

One nice thing is that they offer a cash-payout option. They will pay you the value for which they can get the malfunctioning part installed. I was offered roughly $480. They must have a hell of a deal with the compressor manufacturer, because good luck finding a compressor for anywhere near that. Lastly, AHS needs to implement some type of control to limit the costs that contractors charge. One easy example is that R-22 (Freon coolant) is a huge expense when installing these. My contractor is quoting roughly $160 per pound. If you know of any HVAC contractors, I'd recommend you ask them how much they can buy a container of R-22 for. It's certainly nowhere near $160/lb. It's actually much closer to $15-16/lb. TL/DR: I'm not sure if it's AHS or home warranties in general, but I've been less than impressed.

So on the 11th of June I contacted AHS since my fridge stopped working. It took a week to finally get a technician from Valley Wide Repair to come out and look at it. They informed me that they would need to replace a motherboard. It took them an two weeks to get the parts and finally come back out to replace them, mind you this is after me calling them to find out what was going on. The next day when it still wasn’t working I contact both AHS and Valley Wide Repair and was informed they would have to come back out. They NEVER did. A week after they informed me this. I contacted them back to find out what was going I. And they said that the warranty company informed them that the service request was sent to another company... It wasn’t.

28 days has passed so far. After contacting them I finally after 45 minutes got a hold of someone at AHS and was informed that the appliance repair company called to inform them that they could repair it. This is only after I contacted them. I am now waiting in another company to come out in another week to try and fix my fridge. So two appliance companies and over a month to fix one fridge. Do your research and DO NOT use AHS. They align themselves with shady rip off appliance companies who never communicate with their clients and provide HORRIBLE customer service. I almost feel that it would have been better to pay out of pocket for a new fridge than go through this hassle.

Last Friday, I got a message from the authorization department saying that they're authorizing the fix for my air conditioner. Then, I was supposed to wait for a call from the service provider Ice Cube Air, but they didn't call, so I called them and they said they had not received the order.

Today, I called to see what is going on because every time I called the number that they left, they always say that they cannot complete my call at the time. I then called the main number but because they said it would be a 40 minute wait, I left my number. A rep from Ice Cube Air called back and told me they got the order and that they're just ordering the part. This is still an ongoing claim and it's 112 degrees for the past two days. But despite these, I would still recommend American Home Shield.

We had just bought a new house and the house came with a refrigerator that had an ice maker on the top and an ice maker in the bottom. One of the ice makers wouldn't stop making ice and the other ice maker didn't make ice at all, so my husband told me to get a hold of American Home Shield and have them come out and look at the ice makers. The parts were ordered for the top and the bottom, but we haven't seen one of the parts come in the mail, and it has been a couple of weeks now. Whoever was supposed to come out and fix the part didn't order one of them, so we're still waiting for the service to be finished.

Back in 2008, it turned out that our air conditioner was not cooling the house adequately and it was because that the air conditioner was not the right size for that size of the house. It meant that American Home Shield had to at least replace the units to the state minimum, but we had the option to buy up if we wanted to. I liked the fact that they gave that option and that they were willing to cover up the X amount. And if I wanted to buy more, that was fine. I just had to pay the difference. I love American Home Shield's program, so I got it on two of my properties now. We're keeping our old house and I'm keeping my American Home Shield on that house. I have recommended their program to other home buyers and I've told my family members when they bought houses as well.

We do our claims with American Home Shield over the phone. It’s good and we prefer to do it that way, except we have to wait for a really long time for someone to come to the phone. The people that came to the home were real busy. They go up into our attic and looked at the AC unit. There was a part of it that was up there, a part of it outside. And then they said that they were gonna have to order a part. So we’re still waiting on the part. They said they were gonna be back here within about five days and it’s probably been 10 to 15 days now.

My husband is also upset about the ice maker, the dispenser part of it. He called AHS and said it wasn’t working. The contractor had to order a part and they put the part in. It lasted for a few times, maybe five days worth and then it quit. My husband called again and the contractor said that they couldn’t fix it. My husband said, “Should I get American Shield to figure out something?” They said no and American Shield would call him. It’s been about two weeks now and they haven’t called about that. Sometimes AHS do okay and then other times they don’t follow through to see if something got taken care of or just leave it broken.

Still, he did what he said he would, ordered the part, came back and put it on.

However, I've had issues with some of the other contractors. The one who did the plumbing had to come out about three times before they had finally fixed the leaking sink. First, the contractor said the garbage disposal wasn’t hooked up, but I didn’t believe that. Still, I paid for the fixing of the leak. He came out again and didn’t fix it right. It kept leaking. I called and said that I understood they want to get paid, but somebody needed to figure out why this thing is still leaking. The contractor came out and fixed a piece in the sink. When they told me I had to pay again, I said no and that I had already paid for that twice. Despite this, AHS has been really good and for the most part, they contact me right away. The A/C wasn’t getting cold, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. A tech came over and tried to charge me some exorbitant price above what I required. So, I called American Home Shield to get a second opinion. The second guy came out and said that it just needed to defrost. That was it and it's been working ever since.

I've been with American Home Shield for eight years now and they've been fine. However, lately, the first contractors always seem not to be a 100%. I currently got a replacement for my oven. The guy said that he could come so I stayed home for work, but he didn’t show on time. He called back later that evening and asked if he could come by tomorrow. I told him he had to come before a certain time because I had other plans. We agreed that we did not need him to come out and that he could just order the part. That has been two weeks ago. I had to call right before the 4th and the guy who answered the phone said that they were expecting the part on Thursday or Friday. But I still haven’t heard from them, so the contractors are a little sketchy because communication is more important to me than anything else.

Nonetheless, I’ve given recommendations to my Pastor, to people that worked for me within the job, and every one of my juju guys. No less than five people that worked for me use American Home Shield. People within my church has used American Home Shield because the overall value of the service is great. It’s just sometimes we get a contractor that doesn’t live up to the standards that we were expecting so I do my due diligence and stay on them to make sure things get done. And if I have a problem, I call American Home Shield and they take care of it.

I was previously with OneGuard and I was looking for something a little more affordable and had a different break down in the plans. I got American Home Shield and I've been with them for five months. I submit my claims over the phone. I have the phone number handy, so it’s an easy thing to do. But if I have any issues and I'm trying to resolve it, it’s like I never get anywhere. I have to always go to a person because the phone automated person is not gonna give me an update on the claim when I’m having problems.

I had a claim for my pool water pump and it was a complete disaster. When I first put the ticket in, SunBright Pools came out. The guy submitted the ticket and AHS called me to let me know that nothing was gonna be covered. The rep said that the water pressure wasn't gonna be covered which was interesting because the tech told us it was going to be completely covered by AHS. So, they put a request in to talk with the company itself to get a clarification on their report. There was communication back and forth and over three weeks went by without any resolution. I called and I was super, super frustrated and upset. Every few days I would just call and ask if they've heard anything because no one had contacted me. They kept putting notes saying that they were gonna contact me when they hear back from SunBright Pools, but no one did.

My pool pump was not working correctly at this time and the pool was getting greener and greener. If something else breaks in my pool because it’s not working properly then that’s gonna be an even bigger problem. And we’re talking more financial issues either on my part or on Home Shield. That would be creating a larger problem. Ultimately, I decided to go to an outside company and have my pool drained, refilled, and started fresh because at that point I didn’t have any more time to wait on fixing the problem.

Then, I happened to get in touch with a rep from AHS and she was the first one who finally said, “I will do something about this.” And we ended up putting a ticket to have somebody else come out. The new company came out within 48 hours and they were great. The guy said it was a simple fix and he sent the report in. And in 48 hours, he was back out there, changed the parts, and it was done. It was so straightforward and so simple, and that was what was so frustrating about it to begin with because if it was so straightforward and simple, then I don’t know why it took over a month. It was a horrible experience and I was almost ready to just switch warranty companies from a jump.

My last experience though was beneficial. I submitted a claim for my water heater over the computer and somebody came out. We initially consulted a plumber and it ended up being an electrical problem. Then, they consulted an electrician and that ended up being a good thing that they required us to go that route. They initially tried to charge us a second time even though it was the same incident so I had to call and have them correct it. But other than that, that went much smoother.

I still have a little bit of a sour taste with my initial experience. It was my very first claim. In the previous two years I own my house, I submitted two tickets total with my previous warranty company that wasn’t a big deal and off the jump I submit one and it was horrible. AHS requires extra work on the consumers part to get the task completed.

It's a good idea to have AHS. I'm glad I have them, but I have been having a struggle with communication. The very first time we called AHS they told us the pump was covered and then the next day they said that it was not covered because it was a grinder pump. In my opinion, that was negative because I was told one thing and then it wasn't.

Then we called for both the central air and the wall unit. They were not keeping up at all. We couldn't get the temperature under 78 and the AC was running and running. That was when I said we needed to have somebody come out and look at it. The tech came out the first time and said that it looked like it was running fine. He also said that the wall unit was not covered by AHS so he didn't want to look at it because we'd have to pay him. He gave my husband a couple suggestions for cooling the house. One was an attic fan above our thermostat, but he said we need to close up that opening. We just nailed something over it and put some insulation and said we'll try that. It helped a little, but it still wasn't keeping up, so I had to call back. So, they sent the tech out again.

The second time, my husband was there. He was a maintenance guy, so he knows some of this stuff. He said that the evaporator coil should be hot, but it's not. The tech realized that he had missed something and admitted he was wrong. He needed to add a pound of Freon. He put the Freon in and billed us for what AHS did not pay. Personally, I thought he should not have billed us because he didn't fix it the first time and we had to wait two or three more days.

Then I called Monday to have them come back out because the wall unit wasn't working and it needed to be fixed. It cools for a while, and then it shuts off. And it might not come back on for a really long time and by then it's all hot in there again. The lady who took my call was very pleasant and said she will have them come back out and there won't be an extra fee. I said okay. I then received a call from the contractor and she said they told AHS multiple times that they do not service those. I said let them know again. Last night, I went online to see if my service call was still sitting there, but the entire service call was gone. And the wall unit was taken off of that initial call. No one called me to tell me they were gonna get me a different contractor. It was aggravating to have to call back again last night to reinstate the service call. I'm a little frustrated with that.

We bought our house at the end of March and we’ve had American Home Shield since then. I submit my claims online but when I spoke with their reps in the past, they were very courteous and friendly. I had a great experience during the phone call. When I had a disposal problem, Pipe Down Services came out and it was the first time that I got to be the first appointment of an appointment window, so that was very exciting. Their people were on time and they even had a little tracking app that showed me exactly where their car was in the drive. It was creepy but it worked. Pipe Down’s people were professional and courteous. They took a look at the garbage disposal and told us that they needed to replace it because it had a giant crack in it.

We also asked for a dishwasher service because when we ran our dishwasher after the disposal broke, it threw up stuff through the disposal. It sounded like it was the disposal that was causing the dishwasher problem. But after the garbage disposal was fixed, I called AHS to cancel the dishwasher appointment. Then I still I got a text from the dishwasher people saying that they were showing up. The whole conversation with the AHS rep was very good so I didn’t know where it messed up and somebody didn’t check it. That aside, my experience with AHS has been good so far.

Somebody then called me from the place that actually serviced my air conditioner and they met me the next day. The contractor came in and then looked at the situation. He assessed and corrected it and off he went. Having a warranty on the property is like having life insurance and it's worth every penny.

American Home Shield was supposed to be open 325 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day when a customer has an issue to call. However, on Memorial Day, the phone rang and rang for 10 minutes and nobody answered. My air conditioner went out. The temperature was about 100s in Illinois at that time and I have long-haired Pekingese. I had to call somebody to come and I paid $400 out of my pocket for the air conditioner. The caps were leaking and they had to replace the seals on the cap.

I tried to get the money back from AHS and they said that they wouldn’t do that. I told them that nobody was answering when I was calling. We had to schedule an appointment anyway and AHS would have somebody come out and look at the air conditioner. When I don’t have an air conditioner, a heater or a refrigerator, those are emergencies and those were things I could not wait on.

I had AHS come out for my washer, too. And for repairs like the washer, we could wait. But it was terrible to get anybody to be scheduled. I’m a nurse and my husband’s an electrician so we work terrible hours, and it’s tough to get a hold of somebody right away so we could schedule a time on our days off. But when we call them and the next day’s our day off, they don’t even call until the next day. It was crazy that the guy they called out to do the charging on our air, Allen Cooling and Heating, is open 24 hours a day so it was not like they couldn’t get somebody to come. They just get who they want to come, when they want them to come.

It used to be not that bad but lately, it’s been getting that way and when we asked for a manager since we were so upset, the rep wouldn’t give us the manager. Finally, after 15 minutes of arguing on the phone, he got a manager on the phone. The manager told us to send our reimbursement request to an email address and they would see what they could do. However, we got a letter that they couldn’t do anything for us. The contractors were fine but I’m very unhappy with AHS so I’ve been looking at a few other ones as they even offer less. Also, we pay so much for deductibles. And if someone would ask me about AHS, I would tell them that there are other ones to choose from. We’ve had nothing but trouble with AHS and that was ridiculous.

My tenant called to tell me that the air conditioner was not working. I contacted American Home Shield that Friday, paid whatever the fee was for that and they scheduled an appointment for somebody to come out the subsequent Tuesday. They troubleshot it, let me know that it was going to be a compressor and that they ordered the parts. Then I had to pay to have the coolant placed in it with a discount. It took about 10 days to complete the service call. I have an issue with its timeliness. During the summer, there are probably a lot of phone calls for people experiencing cooling problems. From a landlord's perspective, if my tenant calls me on Friday the 1st and I supply them with air conditioning on the 12th, that's a long time during summer to go without air conditioning. So I have to then try to compensate them in some fashion to mitigate how hot it may be in the house.

With AHS, whenever a call is placed on a Friday, the soonest somebody could get out here would be the subsequent Tuesday because there's a weekend policy. That’s a little disheartening because there should be a type of allowance for accident circumstances and have somebody come out for the weekend. No AC during the summer is an accident circumstance. Now I'm compensating my tenant. It's just fair since he had no AC for the first 10 days of June. I wouldn't want to pay a full month's rent either. I understand American Home Shield’s policy. But there should be a system though where I can pay more to get the service out within 24 to 72 hours. I would pay more upfront to have a happy tenant as opposed to telling a tenant, "Hey, I can't do anything about it. It's their policy."

My realtor got me American Home Shield as my home warranty, and I've been with AHS since November. When some of the electrical outlets were not working in our home, I filed a claim to them online then a guy came out and fixed it right on the spot. The contractor was very professional and they were there when they were supposed to be there. The guy checked everything over in the house even though we knew both of the other outlets worked. He was willing to go through them to make sure that every single outlet in the house worked.

However, the past claim that I had was terrible and it took me about a month to get my AC fixed. My house was at 99 degrees and it was awful. They had a guy come out, and evidently what he wrote on our ticket was completely different from what American Home Shield said that happened. The guy indicated that we should get a new unit because it would be cheaper to get a new one rather than putting in nine pounds of Freon.

My husband was ready to go with that but American Home Shield didn't wanna do it because they said that they were just gonna put the Freon in. But my husband said he won't pay that amount of money when he could just get a new unit for $200 more our cost. Still, American Home Shield didn’t wanna do that so they sent out a second opinion. The contractor for the second opinion came out and said that I can just put some Freon in and do a leak seal. Then it took a week for them to get back to us to approve that to happen, even though my husband was not very happy still. We also needed a thermostat and when they came out to fix the issue, they did not bring one.

Every time this company comes out, they would give us a four-hour window which was fine, but they never show up till an hour after the window had already passed. I just finished this issue two days ago, when I had them out. They had to come out twice ‘cause the guy who put in the new thermostat hooked one of the wires wrongly which made it 99 degrees in my house, then we had to wait until the next business day. My husband called the owner and then the owner came out with that guy. We found out the leak seal and the Freon wasn’t put in right. It looked like some rookie guy had come out and it was mind-boggling to say the least.

My husband and I were not very happy. I had to give up four days to wait on these people who showed up on their own time. The turnaround took 30 days so it caused us money ‘cause it’s a rental home for us and it was costing us $4100 each week ‘cause we can’t put people there if our ACs are not working. And if I will be asked about American Home Shield, I'll tell them that they're not a company they wanna work with.

The dishwasher was not cleaning appropriately and I would have dried milk still in my kid’s cups after I ran through a whole cycle. We’re new to the house so I don’t know how long it had not been operating properly and when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, they researched it and got back to me with options. It was a great experience and they handled it well. They did not let me know when to expect the contractors but that depends on whoever local contractor was used and what their schedule was like.

A contractor was sent out within a week, which was quick, and he was good. He asked me how I felt and if I could pick what I would want to do with the dishwasher. He took my input, which I felt was appreciated. The dishwasher is irreparable so we have to replace it. American Home Shield will cover it if we want to choose a lower-end model. But if we wanted to get an upper-end model, because our kitchen is all high-end appliances, then they would give us the credit towards another dishwasher. And that seems to be a reasonable adjustment.

And if they didn’t come Friday, they have to come the 16th.

So far, the contractor couldn't seem to get our air conditioning working. They put two compressors out there and it's still not fixed. Since we pay every time they come, we’re not going to do it anymore. We shouldn’t be paying anything if it's not fixed. While AHS is trying, they don't understand that it's really hot and we’re without air. We have to sleep in one place in the house because the window unit is not all over. I needed a new sump pump. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out a plumber from 80 Service Incorporated. They installed it but within a few weeks, it was not working. I called for another plumber to come back out and AHS sent the same company. They said that they could not access the pump because of the water. But there was water because the pump that they installed was not working. So, they wouldn't repair it and I had to call American Home Shield several times about it. We went back and forth over the terminology in our agreement on whether or not the techs had access to the sump pump because there was no physical barrier to them accessing it.

The company also wanted to charge me $300 to pump out the water, but I wasn't going to pay that. So, I had to get to the pump myself then I pumped it out, and I had American Home Shield send another company out to do an assessment. The second company said that there was either a faulty installation or a defective product installed. That meant that I was right and that there should not have been 8-inch of water in my cellar. So, AHS sent the original company back out because it had been within 30 days since they installed the initial pump. And their tech got it working yesterday, so hopefully it continues to work.

In the past, I've been satisfied with some of the vendors that AHS sent out. But with this most recent claim, I was very dissatisfied with how they treated me and how they handled the process by saying that the contractor was going to charge me extra money to fix their mistake. Aside from that, some of AHS' representatives were extremely rude and my husband and I were very frustrated with their process. The initial few representatives I spoke to would not let me talk to the Authorizations Department or whoever it was to escalate the issue to the next level to get another company out for a second opinion. They basically told me there was nothing they could do and that was not true.

So, I calmed down and called again until finally someone got me over to Authorizations Department, and they were able to help me. I would expect for AHS to want to work with me as their customer and their client, and not be so resistant to listening to what I say when I'm the one living with the faulty product that was installed by one of the vendors that they sent to my house.

I've used American Home Shield twice. The AC issue was a good experience. It happened when I have only been in the house for weeks and my AC wasn’t blowing cold air. I opened the case with AHS and they assigned it immediately to an AC tech. The third party calls me that same day and scheduled service the following Monday. The contractor came and he fixed the compressor. He had the part needed and replaced the part in the air conditioner, and then it was done. It was perfect and I hope I have nothing else. I didn’t wanna buy a lemon, but I also don’t wanna have to go through any of that again.

On the other hand, I had a very bad experience with my refrigerator once when I had only been in the house for about five weeks. My refrigerator stopped cooling and it was easy to open a case with AHS for that. They assigned a tech and a guy came out timely. He looked at the refrigerator and said that it was an older model. Some parts had gone and he wasn’t gonna be able to repair it, so I needed a new refrigerator. For three weeks, I had to live out of a cooler in the Arizona heat with no refrigerator and three weeks went by before I could actually have a person put in a new refrigerator in my house.

I'm the person who doesn’t have the refrigerator and I didn’t feel like AHS's customer service was overly sympathetic, but that's not really what I was looking for. My primary complaint was that I was asking them to do something and what can be done, and they didn’t have any answers for me. I asked if there was a way I could escalate it and what could I do and if they wanted me to call the guy back out. But they said that they would follow up and that went on for almost a week. We were all waiting for some tech to update and to say that a part is unavailable and that I needed a new fridge. And then I had to go through their process where they would send me a link to buy a new fridge. Literally, I called twice a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon and asked them what the status was and if anyone updated the case, because there was no communication to me.

Finally, when I talked to the people at the company that the tech worked for, they said that the system at AHS is so bad that they would sit for hours on the phone waiting to update the case and would give up. And then I told that to the woman I was talking to on the phone from AHS, and she said, “Yeah. The waits are kind of long for the third part to update the ticket.” And then I ordered a fridge and that was gonna take 10 days, but it ended up taking 12 days to get the fridge. Overall, it took three weeks from start to finish. Apparently, whatever method it is that AHS uses for third parties to report back, that process appears to be broken.

When I got home, he was sitting in his van and didn't even get out of his van to greet me. He opened his door and told me what was wrong. I asked him if he could snake the drain in the garage and he told me he couldn't do that and that I would have to open up a whole separate claim. His attitude and demeanor weren't very good. Even after the second time that AHS sent somebody out, it still wasn't quite right. So I contacted a different plumbing company that wasn't with AHS. It cost me $325 to find out exactly what the problem was. They were able to get a diagnosis of what the issue was, what should be done to fix it, and how much it was gonna cost.

Another thing was that when I had to call customer service at AHS, it was almost impossible to get a hold of someone. And then, when I went to make my first payment, I got transferred four different times only to end back up at the very first department that I contacted. I wasn't too impressed with the wait time on trying to get in touch with the customer service representative. I would expect to be on hold no longer than 10 minutes and I understand that they're busy, but being on hold for 45 minutes on both times that I called was excessive. My husband also tried to get a hold of a representative on three separate occasions. And each time he finally got a hold of someone after waiting for 30 minutes, he was told that they couldn't assist him because their systems were down and that he would have to call back at a later time.

I had another claim and the contractor company was supposed to do electrical work and hang up my ceiling fan. However, they just cut the wires in them, put it back up, and didn't hook up the fan.

The heat pump wasn’t cooling my house and I called it in with American Home Shield and I spoke with a representative. He told me that it would be within 24 hours for me to get contacted by the contractor and after 24 hours, I called Piedmont Electrical and got their voicemail so I left a message. I called again the next day and the day after that and again got their voicemail so I left a message. On the fourth day, I called and they finally answered. Their rep was extremely rude and I was about to be rude back but then I realized that she held my comfort in her hand, so I decided to be nice. She set me up for their guy to come out about six days later. He showed up on time and he was great. But I'll never deal with this contractor again. They are horrible. They don’t answer their phone and they don’t return phone calls.

Still, I'm perfectly happy with American Home Shield. They did everything they could. I hit them up on chat one day and they said that they would reach out and make sure that the contractor calls me once they pick up the part. But the part was in for about a week and a half before the contractor even came out and I was in South Carolina and it's July.

We were having ductwork problems in our attic and we called to submit a claim. I wanted to request a specific contractor but their telephone menu was really difficult to get through. Also, when you make a request on the web, it gives you no option. I hope they'd give the customers a list of contractors for their specific calls and let them decide whether to choose a contractor on their own or let AHS send someone. Dealing with something like that would be simple. But in the end we got the company we wanted and they were very good. We liked the control and AHS has done well for us.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was a dishwasher, which I submitted the claim online. The process was easy and AHS responded quickly. However, Daryl’s Appliances was a no-show. The technician showed up and said he had to go because he said there were parts that he needed and he would be back with us the next day, and he didn’t. For six weeks, I tried to get a hold of him and he never showed back up. Eventually, American Home Shield just bought us a new dishwasher.

Daryl’s Appliances have come to our house before and they have worked fine. But I had noticed online there were legions of people who had left horrible messages saying that that appliance place did the same thing, they were no-show and that AHS kept using them. That place obviously had a very long history of being a no-show and it was odd that that was the only option that AHS had. Nevertheless, I'd tell everybody to get American Home Shield. It's very convenient and affordably priced.

I told them that they needed to leave as soon as they could and they honored that. It was a good experience. We've been pleased and satisfied with American Home Shield. Communication with the representative I spoke to on the phone was good and really straightforward. Then the person from South Place Heating and Air who came out was really nice, came on time, communicated clearly, and professional. However, I need to call them back because even though the AC is turning on, the air that’s blowing out isn’t very cool and not a lot. I would expect it to be a little bit stronger and maybe it’s a fan issue.

However, I realized that when I call AHS' headquarters, their reps aren't as precise as the local ones. The local ones are very good, more knowledgeable and efficient. But the plumber they sent was very good and knew exactly what to do. We were replacing a bathroom vanity and he suggested to replace the supply lines, which was a very good advice because they were 18 years old. The experience was great and I was very satisfied. I'm very, very happy that he came and was so professional. It was a $6,000 project. If he didn't stop by, maybe I would have the same supply lines and if something breaks then it's another $6,000 to replace.

I tried calling back, but I had to leave to pick up my grandkids, so I just tried to get online. Within a couple of hours, they called me to set something up. The claims experience online was surprisingly good. They sent a tech within a day or so right after I told them the unit concerned still wasn't working.

I just had the contractor come back out because he told me that if the unit still wasn't working right, to let him know because he couldn't really figure out what was going on with it the first time they came out. He told us to try a different bulb and we did and it temporarily worked for a bit. It was still doing it so he came out and it was something about he was gonna change out the socket. However, the socket he had wouldn't work with the fixture that existed, so he had to buy a cheap plastic that was all a one-piece thing. He ran up to Home Depot or Lowe's and got it and came back. When he installed that, I haven't had any problem since.

We had an issue with our air conditioner and it was reported to American Home Shield on a Saturday. They said they would try and have somebody over as fast as possible but they initially slotted us for Wednesday and it was extremely hot. We were requesting if we could have someone the day after instead. We told the agent we have kids and with my husband’s job, he would sometimes do 20 hours a day and when he got home, he couldn’t sleep because it was too hot. But the agent was very rude. She said there was nothing she could do and that we probably had to find someone and then she cut the phone off. I’ve talked to the manager about it though. I've never had this problem with customer service before and I would not let one person spoil the rest.

Besides, the guy came out on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, which was very good. Jerry was from Oxford Air Conditioning and he was a good worker. He knew his job and did it very well. He fixed the problem in no time. He even checked back on us to make sure we were okay and he was very courteous. So I like that person. If I need an AC person next time, I would like that company. I feel comfortable with them. And if Jerry is available, I would like that particular person to come back.

    Reviewed July 8, 2018

We were told that we were given a call on June 29th to update us that we would be owing an extra $295 for the copper coil modification which is interesting because when we were first called the day before, they had already diagnosed it and turned into AHS. We were given a call saying that we would be responsible for $315 which I believe is nine pounds of refrigerant. AHS reimbursed us $10 a pound but the tech gets here today after we’ve waited almost 10 days for all of these. We’re in Texas so the upstairs of my house got to 99 degrees the other day. I’ve got a one year old and a five year old so we’ve all been sleeping downstairs.

We’ve done what we have to do to get things going but then, the tech got here today. He showed me an invoice for $610 so there’s an extra $295 on there for this copper coil modification that I can assure, no one from AHS called myself or my wife on either of the numbers we have or simply sending us an email telling us that there was an amendment to the original invoice. None of that was there.

Speaking with the customer service agent currently, she was very well versed in telling me that AHS wouldn’t reimburse for the copper coil modification. She also did not offer any suggestions as to why, other than reading an internal timestamp on their guy’s end, said that someone had communicated to the customer that there was an amendment to the original invoice.

But what was funny is when she was reading me the script, it mentioned that 610 buck’s out the door. So I got a voicemail from AHS that says it’s gonna be $315. And then I’ve got no other voicemail after they claimed to have been. And on top of that, why would I have any reason to think that it’s anything other than $315 until they get here the day they do the work to tell me it’s gonna be $610 and that they can’t start the work until I cut him a check? I kinda felt like I was being set up. I didn’t know if it was the AC company that set me up and they just needed an extra 300 bucks thinking that I would give it to the tech and not say anything. So I went ahead because we got to get the work done to get AC upstairs.

And then I came inside and that was when I called AHS and I knew it was a busy time of the year but I waited 45 minutes to talk to a human. And after that 45 minutes, the person that I spoke with was very understanding at first but then it was like she was almost reading off a script of what to tell people when they call in to complain about the copper coil modification. I said I just called in to see if I could get some help on the $295 because I was never explained that to and then she quickly went to the transcript and mentioned they called me on the 29th and left a voicemail. I told her they didn't and she said it didn’t matter if they called me or not and the fact that they have it noted internally, means that it was in print with them. It was a little bit unprofessional and there was no sympathy at all.

I’ve been paying a long time with AHS and more importantly, this AC unit. I probably spent 2,500 bucks the last four years out of pocket on this AC unit between service calls and bringing it back to specks. If they called me back and told me it was gonna be 610 bucks, I could make that adjustment and be ready when the guy gets here, instead of looking absolutely confused trying to figure out why I’m paying that extra $300.

I called AHS over the phone for our AC claim and the first contractor, K&W, came out to put the fan motor on and then the next week, I had Peachtree Service come out to do a yearly tune up. However, they said the compressor was gone and the unit had a disconnector that was loose and they couldn't do anything to service it until these things were addressed. I had the Peachtree Service technician write down everything so I could articulate it to the warranty agent.

I called and called Home Shield back to let them know and they sent K&W back out. They were supposed to come between 12:00 and 4:00, but they got there around five minutes to 6:00. They spent five minutes and said nothing's wrong with the unit. The second opinion came out which is Air Design and they were professional and did a great job. They diagnosed the issue as a compressor being missed or the compressor being faulty and they were able to get it resolved.

I went back and forth and spoke to about seven people within three days. The diagnostic was not received, which I heard from several people, and then I heard the diagnostic was received and they were waiting on it to go through the approval process. We finally got it straightened out after 48 hours but it was a challenging experience. We were without service for almost three and a half weeks and we've been sitting in heat trying to go back and forth with the first opinion from K&W and they were waiting for the second opinion. Also, sometimes it's hard to understand the accent of the AHS associates and I have to ask them to slow it down and speak a little clearly and a little louder. But overall, all the AHS associates were very helpful and they tried their best to pay resolution to my claim. I would recommend AHS.

I also told him that it had been heating up like it was gonna burn up. When I asked what could be the issue, he said it could be the thermostat. Furthermore, I also told him that if I push the power thing on to use the top part, I can use it for about 15 minutes before the oven starts beeping and getting extremely hot. And it flashes this F10 code. So I asked if he could fix it. He said it was a separate charge. So I told him that if he was here to fix it, it shouldn't be a separate charge.

Eventually, he told me that it was already working so I turned on the oven and it worked fine. About two weeks out, the oven started heating up hot and heavy, like what it had been doing in the beginning so the issue wasn't completely resolved. I was not pleased. Meanwhile, with my last service with the air conditioning unit, I had a good experience. The guy came right out and told me he needed a part. He also said that it may take four days for him to get it here. And he was on it and was back in time so I was very pleased.

There was some leakage of water on the floor from the AC so I tried to call American Home Shield but I didn't get somebody because I called them late. I ultimately did the claim through the internet. I went to the AHS.com and then I went to their particular request service. Usually, online is faster. Then I got a text message telling that somebody will be coming, which was good, and the someone set up an appointment the next day. When the contractor came out, he fixed the problem with my AC right away. It was done in only 1 appointment and there was no problem which I needed to call.

The only comment I have for this experience is that when the contractors come, they can put some guard on their shoes or they can leave their shoes outside and walk in the house. I leave my shoes outside when I walk in the house and I don’t want somebody else to walk in my house on shoes because I don’t walk myself too. They cannot just bring their shoes into the house and they should ask if it’s okay for them to come with shoes on. So, that will be nice and maybe that’s more considerate on their part to ask.
