We have had a home warranty with American Home Shield since 2006. At first, we were satisfied with their service. However, over the last couple of years, the annual fee and fee per service has consistently increased. At the same time the quality of service has consistently decreased. It appears they are contracting out to the lowest bidder and these third parties couldn't care less about our business and make no attempts at customer service. The quality of the work is poor and communication is downright rude.

After numerous frustrating experiences, I called American Home Shield on Apr 19, 2018 and requested they cancel our contract. After speaking with a completely unhelpful customer service representative, I was told our contract was canceled. I requested a confirmation number and at that exact moment, the phone connection was lost. As it turns out, our services were never canceled, and American Home Shield continued to bill my credit card monthly in both May and June. When I called American Home Shield, they had no record of me having canceled. In searching online, it appears that we are not the only ones with difficulty terminating our American Home Shield contract. I suggest that before signing up with this company, you do your due diligence in researching the quality of their customer service and the difficulties involved in canceling your contract.

The hot water heater for my home broke down. I called AHS in order to file a claim. The technician came out in a timely matter. I get a call from American Home Shield stating that it was going to cost me $990 out of pocket but that they would pay to replace the unit. I'm paying $600 a year for this service over several years and have only filed one claim and I still have to pay $990 out of pocket? Regardless I asked if I could have an itemized receipt as to what each of these out of pocket cost are and exactly what the hot water heater itself cost as well as the parts and labor.

The technician read off the information but I asked for a written copy and he said that he could not give that to me. Then he told me I could try going to the contractor. I asked the people they had contracted out for the itemization and they said they would but they still never got it to me either. I couldn't go without a hot water heater for days on end so I called another company and they got back to me same day for the heater and total installation cost for the same price. Which makes me wonder what exactly is AHS paying for and why is this service supposedly worth it and why couldn't this all be done in one day? I also asked for a cash out detail amount and they still have not gotten that back to me either.

What a headache. I should just save the $600/yr into my own savings account and have it for expenses that come up. I want to cancel this service but will probably have to wait until I finally get a cash out answer. I'm known as a person who normally goes out of my way to give good reviews but this is the first time that I'm just angry, frustrated, and annoyed with a company and will make sure to let everyone know to avoid them at all cost.

I have had some of those nightmare repairs by mom and pops contractors that have no clue how to do a "good quality" repair. Washer had a door switch issue in April and it is down again in June. The technician they sent cobbled together a switch from parts since he did not have the correct one. So yes it lasted a total of 3 months or less. Next an electrical repair - main breaker overheating and tripping. Loser electrician tightens connections and guess what... Still tripping on hot days the AC is running hard. American Home Shield uses complete loser contractors in my area. They should not be trusted for any type of quality. Garbage, garbage and garbage!!! Etc!!!

My renter called and said that the air conditioner wasn’t cooling the house. American Home Shield takes care of my rental house so I called and told them I needed a service call for someone to come and check out what was wrong. When the contractors got to the house, they found that the outside unit was not performing because it was old and the AC upstairs wasn’t doing a very good job either. So, American Home Shield replaced all of it. My renter said the contractors did a very good job and were very thorough. I was very pleased with the work done and I was extremely tickled because American Home Shield treated me good. I will continue to use them for my rental house and I also tell other people about them. They are the best and are adept at taking care of these problems.

The AC wasn't cooling. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim and their reps were able to assist me right away and find my account number. They really took care of it and booked the appointment. I also got a text message about the name of the company and the day after I filed the claim, the contractor called me to make an appointment. The contractor who then came was very friendly, understanding, compassionate and informative. He didn’t belittle me as a woman. He just made sure that he explained what to do. He showed me what to expect with my air-conditioner and to pay attention to certain things about it, especially the filter.

The main thing right now is, I had an issue with my electrical box. A microwave, a stove, a refrigerator and new washer and dryer is connected to it. It's tripping so it needs to be bigger, and AHS got the electrician right away. The guy left a message saying that if I had any more questions or concerns about what American Home Shield covers for me, I could call. However, now it seemed like I needed something additional to the electrical box. I just got a call today, saying that American Home Shield does not cover that so I would have to pay out of pocket for that. And it's frustrating me because I felt like if it’s an electrical deal to where the appliance is tripping the electrical box, they should ask what more they can do. Maybe they can have it torn apart or they could pay for the labor -- anything that would assist me. They were there to take care of it before the one year. After the one year, if something’s wrong with the electrical box, it’s on me.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I called them for an electrical wire issue with our air conditioner and their claims reps did good. They are always great when I get ahold of them. But on some days, it is difficult to get ahold of them. I also have another complaint. AHS sent two different people to work on my garage doors. The doors both go up and go down when I push the button. But when it goes up, the chain rattles against the metal thing and it makes a very loud noise. Then the other side won’t stay on my opener and I’ve had the technicians out here a couple of times. The light is also blinking inside so I changed the bulb of one of the lights thinking the bulb was out. But the bulb won’t come on.

The first guy that came out had to come back out again for the right door. He fixed the left door, and now it’s rattling. He told me to call him back if I have any problems so I was thinking about doing it so he can come out here. But overall, I'm okay with AHS. I’ve been a member a little over a year and I have recommended them and shared my experiences to a couple of people telling them that AHS does good work and saved me a lot of money.

We had a leak in the bathroom shower that couldn’t be stopped. We called American Home Shield to submit a claim for repair and the interaction with the claims rep was pretty good. The contractor they sent, RK Plumbing and Heating, was a good company and the interaction with their plumber was good as well. My wife showed and explained to him how the shower leak was and he said he had to get a part. Everything has been operating really well since the repair. The plumber said that if there was anything else, we’d have to go into the closet and there's a place there where we can get to the shower outlet. But he did all the repair from the front and it was simple for him.

We’ve been really satisfied with having a warranty on our property. We had Fidelity before as our warranty provider and AHS has been a whole lot better. For one thing, we have the plumbing coverage and the garage door coverage with AHS. Their warranty costs a little higher, but they’ve been good in getting stuff fixed, and I'm surely not going back to Fidelity.

I call American Home Shield when submitting a claim and they've always sent somebody out. Whatever company they have contracted comes out right away. I stay with AHS because I don’t like to have problems. I like my things to get resolved and I like to be able to call. I don’t like to have to be calling them back. If I gotta be calling back a service repeatedly to do the same work because they're not coming out, chances are that I won't stay with them. That being said, my most recent claim experience with American Home Shield was good and the contractor came in a timely manner. However, I need to call them back because the fridge is melting the ice. That was one of the reasons that I called them out. The icemaker was making ice but at the bottom of the freezer where it shouldn't be. Also, it wasn’t making the ice solid so I have a bit a puddle where I get the ice from.

We're a family that likes to eat ice, so our ice is very soft and we're constantly having to clean the puddle or make sure that there's something there to catch that ice that's melting on the inside and it could be a bit of a hassle. The Freon at the bottom is not making ice like the old refrigerator used to do. That was taken care of but the ice is still not staying frozen solid to where it's not melting through the door. Nevertheless, I have had excellent service with American Home Shield and I'm very satisfied. All my family members have it.

I received a call within a day where the contractor was scheduled to come out. The contractor came and the service was done very well. I would recommend that AHS use that contractor as much as possible. He’s very professional, got the job done quickly and timely, and he was helpful. My wife is not a computer-oriented person so she always talks to the people at American Home Shield when submitting a claim. She likes to talk to people and say exactly what the problem is. But we’ve had a little problem with American Home Shield. When my wife had a problem with the oven, she had somebody come out through American Home Shield but he couldn’t fix it. So he said he had to get a part and after about a week, he finally came back. The part worked but the problem was the proper heat couldn’t be maintained. He said, “I guess all the ovens are supposed to work within a range of 10 percent.” In other words, if you set the oven to 350, the temperature can be down to 300 and it would show that it’s supposed to be at 350. My wife wasn’t very happy about that one.

Then when the air conditioning stopped working altogether, American Home Shield referred a company to us but they were not equipped to work on our air conditioner. So American Home Shield sent another air conditioning company but it took another four days to set up for an appointment. When the contractor came out, they didn’t seem to be totally equipped to check the air conditioner either. They had to come back a couple of times and they didn’t seem to know exactly how to fix the problem. So rather than fix the thermostat on the wall, they said that they would have to replace it which was okay with us.

Finally, they got the air conditioner to work. But although it was running, it didn’t distribute the air throughout the house. It wasn’t going to the bedroom where we want the air conditioner to be the best. They said that it's too far away from the air conditioning unit but when I asked them to check the ducts, they told me that if the air conditioning unit was working when they left, then that was it. We're unhappy about that as well. But before these last couple of issues, we’ve had good luck with American Home Shield's subcontractors. We’ve used them for about eight years now and in every house we’ve bought, we’ve always said that we love American Home Shield. It’s the company we use and we’ll keep using them.

When my dishwasher was totally dysfunctional, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I’ve filed claims before and sometimes I get a little resistance on it. But now, they were willing to work and we had an agreement on how everything’s going to go and everything went smoothly. It took them two days to send out a contractor. The contractor looked at the dishwasher and came out with a game plan. They discussed with me what was going on and what the possibilities were, and I told them what my concerns were, and they were very open to the fact that we could work something out. It was an excellent interaction. We ended up buying a new appliance and American Home Shield did a deductible, so it worked out good for both of us.

The air conditioner's drip pan which is located in the attic was not level and when it was getting full, it was tilting and not being able to drain correctly. The first time I had the problem, we were on vacation and when we came back, the ceiling was soaked right over my son's bedroom. Also, the water seeped through the fixture so we got in touch with American Home Shield. We submitted the claim online and they had Affordable Air Conditioning come out. The contractor had to put Freon and did some things that were not covered by the warranty.

It worked for about a day. They had to come out two more times and today is the third time. The next two times that I submitted the claim, I had to call them. We were on vacation again after it was supposed to have been fixed and when we returned, we came into a swelteringly hot house again. That was Sunday and finally, the contractor came today and did the work. The house is cooling now. The guy that initially did the installing came and he said that he was 99% sure that whatever he did today would work. If not, he would come out himself, take it out again and figure it out. So far, so good.

It was easy to submit the claim online. Within 24 hours, I got an email response where they had assigned the claim to Affordable Air Conditioning. The contractor was professional to a certain degree but they were not on time. I was given a window which was between 7:00 until 10:00 in the morning the first time but they did not come. The second time, I was told it would be between 12:00 and 3:00 and they showed up around 5:00. Today, they told me between 12:00 and 3:00 and they got here maybe about 2 o’clock. Each time, I was told that there was a job that they were working on and they were trying to wrap it up. Plus, the driving time had to be figured in so consequently, it was way off. Other than that, overall, I'm most satisfied with American Home Shield. Whenever I call them, they were professional and sympathetic to the situation.

I recently submitted a claim online with American Home Shield for the icemaker in our freezer which wasn't producing ice. Their contractor called the same day we submitted the claim and made an appointment to come out. Then, they came out and figured out what part they needed. They came out a week later and finished fixing the icemaker. The contractor did excellent service and the icemaker has been working perfectly since the repair.

Also, I put in a claim for the can lighting in my living room as one of them was not taking any light bulb. When a brand new bulb was put in, it still wouldn’t come on. I made a ticket through AHS website and then they assigned a contractor to it. They also told me that the contractor should be reaching out to me within 24 hours. However I didn't hear anything. So, I called the company that was supposed to come out. After that, when they still hadn’t scheduled a time with me to come out, I called American Home Shield to let them know. AHS quickly reassigned another company to the claim. I told them what was going on and then the new company came out quickly and fixed the issue. It was super-easy and I was really happy with all of it.

Then he ran the washer completely through a cycle and it restarted itself again, so he could see what happened. He checked everything he could on it and the only thing he can figure out was it had to be on the computer motherboard inside the washer that wasn't working properly and he had to order that part. He proceeded to do that and he called us as soon as he got it. A couple of days later, the part came, he installed it, ran the washer through its cycle, and it worked fine. The repairman was very professional. He explained everything he was doing and took care of the problems. The American Home Shield service was great and the response was quick.

American Home Shield charges double for a service call than what I used to pay to my previous home warranty and I still need to see if it's gonna be worth it. The most recent claim I had with them was for the dispenser of my icemaker. I had them send someone out and the first guy who came didn't ask many questions and just told me that the issue was not under warranty and he wasn't gonna fix the unit. But then it turned out that the problem wasn't the warranty and he had the part that has fallen off, he just didn't bother asking me.

American Home Shield then reassigned my ticket to the next company. That company came out and I gave them the part that had fallen down and the guy fixed it. He didn't fix it right the first time but then they came back right away the next day and fixed it proactively. I wasn't at home when the contractors came since I work Mondays to Fridays so I had to have them get my door unlocked. They said they would then call me right after they leave and they would let me know what happened. The second company was really good and everything was great. Since the repair, the unit has been working fine.

We just love American Home Shield. We've been with them for approximately two years and we’ve had a few contractors come out. One was Gator Plumbing and we would never recommend that company. AHS took care of the problem and sent Boyd out, who took care of everything very well. Also, when the shower did not work and the flow of the water would not come out of the showerhead, the guy who came was very accurate and thorough. He did the work and did a good job. We submit claims over the phone and AHS usually answers quickly. Sometimes, if they’re busy and we had to wait on hold for more than five minutes, we're really surprised.

Last week, we put a claim in for our pool. Our pool guy came and took pictures. And we haven't heard anything back from him. My husband has to let him know that there’s something about the tablet. Additionally, we paid a $75 fee for our pool. I told them specifically that our pool was losing water. Why would they charge us $75 when they didn’t fix water-related issues? We were also told that if we use AHS again for our air conditioner and we lose all of our antifreeze, they're only gonna cover $10 per pound. And if we lose all the Freon in our coolant system, it's gonna cost us almost $1000.

I just moved into the house and one of the faucets was loose upstairs. There was water leaking around the faucet to my washer downstairs and there was water dripping out of the draining pipes for my air conditioning unit, so I had someone look at a few things as I was moving in. With the AC, there was a faulty connection and the way that whoever touched it last had the PVC connected to drain my air conditioning unit didn’t have the PVC joined correctly. The contractor tried to fix it but said that he didn’t really wanna do much more because it was not under what he was protected to do. He gave me instructions on what to do like what I could try if I wanted or what else I should do. I ended up using his advice and I got to fix it by myself, so it worked out.

There was also another issue within the last week. I had a huge leak coming out of one of my freshwater pipes, so I had to turn my main water off. I put things through online to request for a plumber but there was no choice to say that it was an emergency situation. It was a separate issue from what Drain Masters had come out for previously and there wasn’t a choice to pick “This is the same issue as before” or “this wasn’t". I got the notification after I put in the submission online and it said, “Hey, you’re gonna go to Drain Masters. Here’s your number but they should call you.” Since I had to turn my water off to the house, I called them around an hour and a half after. This was a Friday night and they said it was not in as an emergency and even if it was, they couldn’t help me until Tuesday.

The woman from Drain Masters said that she would call American Home Shield back and have them change it to emergency status and work from there. I was supposed to get a callback within four hours from someone to bid on coming to help me over the weekend, but that never happened that night. I called Saturday morning as soon as the line opened. We had to wait until eight o’clock to call. Someone was telling me that they got eight plumbers and they called all of them, but haven’t heard from anybody who would take my call. I had until 24 hours to hear from someone before they can do it outside authorization, so I waited longer throughout the day.

One of my neighbors recommended a different plumber, so I called back later. Drain Masters called again at around two o’clock on Saturday and said that they were calling back about the issue. The person didn't know that I had already talked to them about the same problem and they said that they still couldn’t come out until Tuesday. I asked, “In an emergency, how is that acceptable?” She said, “Well, I really can’t answer that.”

I called back and I finally talked to someone who was helpful and she said that they were supposed to get a callback within four hours and someone was supposed to be at our house within 24 hours, not wait for a callback within 24 before they can authorize outside authorization. She made it so that I could have one of the plumbers that weren’t on their list come to help me, but he still couldn’t come until Monday morning which got a bit quicker, at least. So I still had to send in that invoice and hopefully, that process will be smooth.

It was frustrating but something that would be helpful would be to put somewhere on the website that it is an emergency or that it should be done quicker. I’m gonna be without water for four days. There can be some process improvement on the front end because it is easy to put in the claim on the website, but for something that I didn’t really wanna wait a week for, there was not a really easy way to request a quicker service.

We came home one day and there was some water in my garage. Though the water heater didn't blow out, something was leaking water. I filed the claim online to American Home Shield and got an immediate notification that they would be taking care of it or that a water company would be reaching out to me soon. I went ahead proactively and turned off the breaker to the hot water tank to disconnect it from the water line. I also drained it to try and mitigate any further damage. But then, 16, 18 hours later, I still haven’t heard from anyone. I called American Home Shield and asked them if I could use a different plumbing company ‘cause I had used one from them say six months prior and they were much more responsive. But then, they said that they had to give their contractor 24 business hours to respond. 24 business hours is like three days and I’m not waiting three days to get my water heater serviced.

I asked AHS why I couldn't use another contractor and they just said that it was their policy. By the time their other company called me, they said they couldn’t be out for several more days. So I called American Home Shield back and said that their company wouldn't even come out for a couple of days. My situation was an emergency of sorts. We had no hot water. Plus the way our house was built, we couldn’t get water pressure to anything but the sinks when we turned off the water heater. When a new plumber came out, he agreed that we wouldn't be able to shower and do dishes.

Still AHS said that they couldn’t pay for emergency services to come out because my situation was not an emergency. They would only consider it an emergency if the water was damaging my home. So, because I was proactive and stopped the damage from occurring, I now had to wait three days for service. I asked their guy if they would send somebody if I go out, turn the breaker back on and let the water flow all over the house. He told me that they would but he wouldn't advise it.

Last year, I filed a claim for the same heater. While it wasn't leaking, it stopped heating. That claim went very well and the plumbing company sent by AHS was super responsive. They texted me within minutes of filing the claim and were out within hours. More recently, I called AHS because I had an AC unit that wasn't working properly. I remembered reading a clause in their contract about maintenance work not being covered. As I was unsure of their definition of my scenario I called to inquire whether they would consider adding refrigerant to the unit maintenance or service.

However, the gal from AHS whom I talked to could not give me an answer. She just wanted me to file the claim, spend $125 to send somebody out only to tell me that the work wasn't covered. I asked her to find out whether it was considered maintenance or service and she put me on hold for 20 minutes and never got back to me. I decided to forget it. I had an AC guy in my office at the time because my AC unit there also went out at around the same time. I had him come out, fill my Freon up and that was it. So, my last couple of experiences with AHS have not been fantastic.

I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield anymore because a lot of stuff wasn't covered. In fact, I'm getting ready to let them go. When I had a plumbing issue, a tech from Right Way Plumbing came here. I told him where the drain was but he didn't want to cut the little space out to drain it. So I had somebody else. Also, I had my AC unit put in 2012. I knew the cord wasn't new and they should have changed it out but when I had another company to look, the cord wasn't changed. So, I had to get another cord, which cost me some $800. And then, they wanted me to pull out $950 out of my pocket for Freon. They were not doing what they were supposed to do.

I called in and talked to an AHS representative to let her know what the problem was. The contractor that came was off my list and would never have them come back to my house. I was over them. But then AHS sent them out here. When I called American Home Shield, one of them was supposed to call me 'cause she said she was gonna do something about the situation. But she never did.

The sink was leaking and the tub’s valve was not turning on. So, I filed a plumbing claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the claims process went well. When the contractors came, they were straight to work and we had a good interaction. AHS put two different people for the claim and they came on different dates. The sink person repaired it on the same day while the contractor for the tub had to do it three times. I called AHS to tell them that the tub was still not solved and a contractor needed to come back. It took them two weeks to repair the tub. Nevertheless, after the contractor fixed it, the tub has been working. Although it turns off by itself once in a while and I'm not sure if I should still be concerned about it or not. AHS has been good and I would recommend them. But they should also consider asking if everything is working good or if there is a need for another person once the contractor did the repair.

It said to wait 24 hours, but I waited for 15. I really wanted hot water, so I called them and finalized the appointment. I didn’t like that part, but the two guys that came out were awesome. I absolutely loved them. They showed up early and they were great people, and they talked with my terms, non-plumber terms, so I knew what they were saying and it was nice. We got hot water and it's been perfect since the repair. American Home Shield is good.

Everybody at American Home Shield has been wonderful. Our most recent claim was for the air conditioner and the technician was absolutely great. He drove up, talked to me about it, and fixed it within a few minutes. He was very professional and excellent. We just moved into this house and he was one of the best I’ve seen as far as servicemen who had to come out here. We loved him. I got AHS when I bought the house and I will keep it forever. I’ve had really good luck with them. It was the second time that something had gone out. For the two appliances that I’ve had problems with, it would have cost me $1000 or more to get them fixed like they are today. I called AHS and it had been taken care of. It worked out really well. AHS is a good service and it’s worth it.

The contractor was out there for 10 minutes but then he said that the AC was working fine. Luckily, I was able to fix the AC myself 'cause the contractor wouldn’t come back out. I submitted to the AHS website about rating the people and stuff that I did, but I never heard back from them. On the other hand, AHS had done a good job on the first claim I had. My pool heater was messed up and they fixed it. The people that came out were awesome. I'm pleased with my experience with AHS and I would recommend them to others.

They didn’t even let me know until I had to call in to check out what was going on. They told me the manager changed the appointment on his own without telling anybody. But they were a great contractor and the service guy did a good job. He told me step-by-step what he was doing and he also apologized for the appointment, which wasn’t his fault. My experience with American Home Shield hasn't been bad and the interaction with their staff has been fine. However, the thing I don’t like about it is that if I have a problem, I call them, and AHS doesn't wanna commit to saying that they're gonna cover it unless somebody comes over there. And the problem is that if somebody sets foot on the property, then I'm committed to the deductible. Anytime I've called them up, I've always tried to be very accurate with what's going on. The specifics with them is vague on what's covered, so it's always a hard race just a bit when somebody comes over.

The contractors that come here have been fine, except for one particular guy where his assessment was so far off the mark. Another thing is that their hold times are too long. I wanna talk to somebody because I wanna get something on the record in case I do have to dispute. It happened once where I was told that something was covered, and I was very clear about what was going on, but then it turned out that it wasn’t covered. It was only because of a recording that I got reimbursed the 75 bucks.

What I always tell people is that even if they break even on it, they still are a winner because most people wanna save. Theoretically, they would have that money saved in any day. So if they're paying this little monthly payment, then surprises can be handled at $75 per surprise, most people can handle that, and so AHS gets stuck with a lot of people a time on calls.

At around five, I called and he said that it took longer and that the guy was on his way and that the guy would call me. I heard nothing and I tried calling again and he didn’t answer. I called American Home Shield and their rep talked to the guy in the office who said that the guy was on his way.

So I left another message for the contractor and then someone called me back saying that I was told that they would be late. I told him that I had been told that they were on their way since 2:15 and that it’s not acceptable and that I don’t like being lied to. Tell me you’re running late, call me back and say you’re running even later and I don’t have a problem with that but don’t lie to me. The guy got here at about 7:15 and he was very nice. My gutters need to be replaced before the rainy season comes back. The water that was supposed to go down out of a drip pan down a drain tube all the way out to the side of the house doesn't drain safely into the yard. It was leaking out of that area. I’m a do-it-yourselfer but since I have American Home Shield I used it and I’m not terribly pleased with my experience. They worked really great with my work schedule and mechanically they did a fine job but they were in such a hurry. They didn’t stay long enough to make sure everything really was good to go. It was just go out, fix the one problem and walk away as quickly as possible before you see another problem. That was kinda how I felt in the end.

He fixed the clogged line but what it ended up being was a cracked line as well. Had he waited he probably would have noticed it was cracked. So none of the problem has been resolved. I tried to contact the mechanical agency again because they said, “Just call us directly if there’s any issues.” I never got a word back from them. So now I don’t care. I’ll just go fix it myself and save all the money.

The claims process is fine, but my overall issue is when I told AHS not to pay the guy. They said they couldn't do that so I said, “Well, then refund it to me because they didn’t fix it.” And they said, “Well, we can’t do that.” I said, “Well, do I need to go through my credit card company?” And they said, “You can do that.” I said, “Okay, I’ll do that.” AHS emailed the company but I never heard back so yesterday I called Chase, my credit card company and told them to stop payment on that bill. They’re not gonna get that money. By not answering back any phone calls just shows the company that they went through shouldn’t have been used. That company have terrible reviews. I knew that before they even came to my house, but I’ll give anybody a chance. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the Home Shield plan now. I’m more irate about it.

If AHS knew that there was still a problem, emailing a company to get it fixed doesn’t fix it. They should have said, “Well, why don’t we send somebody else out now? And it won’t cost you $80,” or “We can’t refund you your money, but we can send another person out, or that same person out.” And none of that happened. It was just like, “Let’s just send an email.”

Over the years, it’s nickeled and dimed out to the bidders and the work ethic is following suit. So I don’t think I’m gonna renew my warranty because most of my things are at end-of-life anyway. I might as well just replace my AC unit up front instead of spending $500 thinking about it going every year. That’s my only real expense at this point. My garage door mechanism doesn’t really work but for $80 they’ll come out and maybe fix it. For $150, I get a brand-new one, put it up in an hour and a half. So it’s not really worth it for me.

If you’re buying a used home where everything is possibly gonna break on you over a year, I’d say get AHS for a year, especially when it’s free with the home purchase. But after that, you gotta weigh your options. What is the cost of the new AC unit? It’s $5000. $500 a year to limp along, but it’s $80 dollars every time they come out to look at it. So $5000 can be whittled away pretty quickly over several years.

We've been with American Home Shield since we moved into the house at least six years ago. Recently, our AC was not blowing at all, so we submitted a claim for it online. We put it on Friday night and the contractor, Hansen Mechanical, said that they'd be here on Monday. But they didn't show up until Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Then, after 10 minutes of being here, the tech said he needed to order a part. A contractor had been out a month earlier and they said it was a bad capacitor. They put that in and it lasted for three weeks. The person who came out this time said that the fan was bad and it was what was blowing the capacitor. They also said that it should have been replaced the first time.

However, the tech didn't come back until the following Tuesday to put the fan in. We have a named brand unit that was not off the wall but to get just the fan part didn't seem like it should have taken five days. Aside from that, the fan was available that Friday but they didn't work on the weekend, so we were in dead-end until Monday before they came out. It was 97 degrees here at that time, plus, I didn't like that they responded within 48 or 72 hours from reporting until anybody showed up to the house and another full week to get the problem fixed. So, it was not a good experience. But everything seems to be working on the AC properly since that final time that the contractor came out.

The HVAC technician told me that the old wire got loose and it came apart while they were working on it. And they had to replace a circuit breaker. I let the electrical company know about that and the lady at the front desk just got very irate. They were terrible and I ended up calling AHS and told them that I didn’t want that company to come back out. It took AHS a while to get that company off the list, but they did take them off completely. We had another person come out for the HVAC and he did a great job and handled everything perfectly. We will have been with American Home Shield for about four years this September, and when we first had them, we had a couple of technicians that were not good and didn’t do a good job. We had an issue with the dishwasher and the technician that was sent came from a great distance and he said that he did not do dishwashers and that he did plumbing instead. It was a misdirect and he was not very nice and he did not try to accommodate.

The second man that came out put about $900 to $1500 worth of material into our dishwasher. He did not check it out as early as the ones that did recently. The dishwasher goes through the cycles, but it still did not get the dishes clean and has not since we have lived here. They also would not approve a new dishwasher. Then, two men came, checked the dishwasher and found out why it was not cleaning the whole works. They really gave it a good work-through and they were very helpful. Right now, they are replacing the dishwasher for me.

In addition, a pipe came loose under the sink recently. I filed the claim over the phone and they told me what to do. They sent Scotty’s Plumbing and I liked their attitude and willingness. The first time they came, it did not work, so I called them and they came right back. They had to do some other work that they did not realize they had to. They also said that they would not charge me. They were very prompt at coming, very pleasant and thorough. My one recommendation for American Home Shield is that they get people that are as close to the destination as possible. It’s disturbing that technicians came from away and they did not do anything, and we had to pay the extra amount for the call. Other than that, I’ve been satisfied with AHS. It costs a lot, but it will be worth it.

I've contacted American Home Shield on a number of issues and recently, including a sink that backed up and also leaking underneath. A very gracious and well-spoken gentleman came out and he explained the situation as far as the stoppage of the sink themselves. He cleared out the sinks from stopping up and there wasn’t any conversation about the leaks but at the end of it, when he said that he would leave, I took his word that he had checked underneath the sinks and tightened everything up and that everything was good. When I came down the next morning, the underneath of the sink had flooded. I then called the company and had them come back out. The man came back out and fixed the issue and it hasn’t been leaking since then.

I’m frustrated with AHS though. There are certain things that we expected were covered that weren’t. For example, they didn’t cover my fireplace and I ended up paying $800 to have somebody come out and fix it. That should have been covered as part of the house. Also, a contractor came out and he put in a new plug and that plug died within a couple of days. If the coverage is corrected, American Home Shield is a great business.

The technician went out here, checked the AC and it was working. He said that he couldn't condemn it because it was working. A couple of days went by, the fan went out again. I gotta wait another week and by the time the technician went out there, the fan was working and he couldn't condemn it. I spoke with AHS and they wanted to send me another tech from another company, but they wanted to charge me another $75 to which I said no since I already paid for it. So, they went back with the same company. The third time, they condemned it because the fan motor wasn't working.

The technicians were really good and knowledgeable. I'm a mechanic, so I know what their experience is about. If I can't duplicate the problem, I can't fix it. But they should have been able to make a note about the possibility of the fan motor going out and let everybody know what was going on, so at least, the warranty company would have already had the knowledge about the possibility of the fan motor going out and they would be ready.

I have elderly people with me that have a heart condition and it was tough for my parents not to have AC. I was talking to my dad about calling me on Monday, then talking to AHS about the situation because my monthly payment is there on time and I don't see why they gotta go through that. I know everything goes through a protocol, but they need to work under their protocol a little better as to how things are prioritized. I don't have any issues other than it has been taking too long. I'm very disappointed.

My refrigerator was not cooling. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and their reps were timely in their response. We had a different repair company come out but they realized they couldn’t work with LG. So, AHS sent out Appliance RX and it seemed that they got out pretty quickly as well. Initially, I was a little hesitant about them after reading several reviews. But after learning that they were the only contractor that American Home Shield used in this area for LG and upon meeting them, I was very pleased.

However, I didn't like the customer service of Appliance RX in the very beginning. They didn’t answer their phone and everything that you communicate with them had to be through a text message. When I knew that there was an issue that happened with the fridge, I tried calling them several times but they didn’t respond. That was when I went ahead and filed a claim through American Home Shield again and that was when Appliance RX reached back out.

After the repair, the refrigerator seemed to be working fine. However, once the tech got the cooling element repaired and he had left, there were some noises coming from the refrigerator. So, he came back out on the 4th and repaired it. Overall, I was pleased with the way my claim was handled. I haven't had any issues in the past couple of days but when I did before, the first couple of times that I submitted a claim with AHS was done over the phone. Then I found out that it was faster to do it online and their website was very easy to navigate.

My microwave was giving me a code and when I looked it up, I learned that it could be a fire hazard. We would shut the microwave, not press any button and it would start back up on its own without us doing anything. So, we had that unplugged and I called American Home Shield and I paid my $100. Then the tech from Johnson's Appliance Service was out the very next day. But he had to order the part so he came out twice. It took him a week to get the part and then come back to our home. He replaced the control panel and since then, the microwave has been fine. The tech was great and I would definitely want to have him back. He was familiar with my hometown area and he was very friendly. Overall, I was satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. Our stove was not working properly. The contractor AHS sent came in in May and still, the problem has not been solved. One time, the parts were wrong and the other time, a person that came to fix it said it was not repairable. He told us that it needed to be changed but he told American Home Shield that it needed to be repaired. So they still haven’t resolved it. Now, we only have the one part working so it’s very difficult to work.

Yesterday, AHS said that they were going to send him an email asking him if the stove is repairable or if it has to be replaced but in the meanwhile, they ordered the parts so I’m kind of confused. This is just one incident but it’s taking a long time but the rest of my experience with AHS has been very nice and easy. The contractors are also usually very professional and they do a great job too.

The technician took a few photos and there were no follow-up calls from his company nor from American Home Shield. I am totally dissatisfied.

When we had switches that were flickering another vendor showed up. We received a bill from American Home Shield regarding that work and the vendor said that it was waiting for approval. He changed one switch, left and did not come back. American Home Shield called and disapproved the work so I don't understand what they are covering. We had to hire an electrician to actually get the work done a few days ago. It's unbelievable.

The second tech who came out was great though. The tech filled the AC with Freon but I had to clean it myself just to get it to work but it is still not working. I've called and the techs were supposed to be here this morning. They called and they had to push my appointment time back. I am so dissatisfied with my American Home Shield (AHS) experience. I've used them for two, almost three years now and they are terrible. I have a geothermal-powered air conditioning unit. I've called them four times to fix it. First time they sent the incorrect company (they can't fix geothermal). The second time I was dispatched a company and fortunately, I had the forethought to ask if they repaired geothermal units. They answered negatively.

The third time I called, I was supposed to hear back from a company they dispatched, but I never received a call. I then called a fourth time, they apologized, but they can't find anyone to fix my system. They wanted me to authorize a third-party vendor. Simply put, they needed me to give a vendor of my choosing, a dispatch number, have the vendor give the dispatch number to AHS, pay out of pocket for the repairs, have the vendor verify the work with VIDEO, then they would decided whether they would pay for the work. Meanwhile, I have to call back and forth, fill out paperwork and mail it to AHS...

Bullocks to that!!! I pay for a home warranty so I don't have to do **! I pay on time and they're supposed to repair or replace my stuff. I made three phone calls to AHS this week and have been on the phone with them for three hours! They hung up on me at least three times after long waiting periods. The managers are never available and their customer services hardly speak English. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a victim of fraud.

AND THEN they argue with you. They "SAY" 24-48 hrs for a tech to come and that techs are limited in Tucson AZ (HVAC) which is a complete and utter lie. Obtained EIGHT quotes to replace compressor and HVAC with 2 days ON MY OWN! GOING THRU AHS took 8 days for a tech who then said it would take "AHS" 2-4 weeks to order/process and approve the work. Additionally, the $75 charge didn't include 7 lbs of r-22 refrigerant which is 1400 extra dollars NOT covered by AHS, they paid $10 per pound, leaving me with $1330 to pay, plus their lousy fee. AHS sucks, 100% sucks and is a worthless purchase and waste of time. DO NOT BUY THEIR COVERAGE or products.

I requested service when my AC have the weak airflow upstair on 5/25, AHS assigned me with South Placer Air and Heat, one of the vendor. They visited us twice and can’t find the problem. I called AHS they said they can’t do anything about that. My ac eventually stopped working on 6/26, AHS forced to use the same vendor, unless I pay another deductible. I scheduled they come tomorrow 6/30, live with my upstair uncooled in 1 month and whole house uncooled in 1 week. And if they can’t fix it tomorrow, I think I have to go with outside vendor.

I still don’t understand how I have to pay monthly and deductible with AHS while the vendor can’t fix my AC and I forced to use the same vendor while they can diagnose the issue which lead to the completed broken down of my AC, while they can fix it from beginning. PS: Ac is still not working now. 103 outside in California with an 2 month olds infant inside the house. AHS don’t care about my problem I guess.

Their claims process was very quick which surprised me. That same day, the things got referred on and then we got a call trying to schedule a time. I was trying to push it off for another Friday, where I have every other Friday off. But they said it was over so many days and they’d have to resubmit a new work order. I wanted to get it done so I went ahead and adjusted my schedule.

The contractor was out within a few days, narrowed the issue down to only the hot water on both of the sinks, put whatever new thing that they needed inside, and everything was repaired. The contractor was nice and very good. He came out, did his business and he was done within an hour. Everything went better than what I thought it would.

The hot water faucet in the master bathroom stopped working. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and within 24 hours, I got an email advising me who they assigned the issue to. The contractors came and I didn't have a problem with their work. The house is an older one and the washer in the cut-off valve on the hot water faucet had disintegrated. When they turned it off to repair on their visit, it had broken up. But they got the water back on, I got hot water out of the faucet, and they left. However the next day the faucet got clogged up again from what I assumed was the disintegrated washer. So we had to call them again. They came back and it was not as fast as I would have liked, but they cleaned it out and I had hot water running again. But later in the week, when I was shaving, I had the hot water turned on, and all of a sudden, it’s a tiny little trickle again.

I called and had it reordered again, and the contractors had reported back to American Home Shield and their opinion was it was not related to the issue of no water coming out of the faucet. It was a secondary problem that was not covered by my warranty. So they reported that I needed to buy a new faucet and that they would come back and install the faucet for a fee, if that’s the way I wanted to go. They left it up to me to decide. We then called the contractors and we told them that we would get the faucet. We asked when they could come back, but they're booked until next Tuesday. All in all, I like AHS' service and I'm very satisfied with what I got with them. They pay attention to whatever the issue is.

The water heater ran out and I called American Home Shield. They sent a plumber out who told me that the issue was just a dip tube and that it didn’t need to be replaced. So he fixed it and it worked fine. The water heater ran out again so we made a claim and he came and said that it’s not the water heater. He blamed it on the shower. There was too much water coming out so water was running through the water heater faster than it should have. So he gave us a cheap little shower head that would minimize the flow. We had a three-gallon sprayer and he gave us the one gallon. He shrunk the amount of water so that worked but after that, one of the shower faucets started leaking. The pressure building up on the smaller shower head was coming back down underneath so the hot water kept running out, and now, there’s a shower faucet leaking.

So I called AHS for a third claim and I let the contractor know what happened. He took about a minute and said that when somebody messed up my shower faucet, it cracked the pipe. I told him that if there was a cracked pipe, then it would leak when the shower is off. He said that if he fixes it, he needs to redo the whole shower and tear down the wall to get to it and that all the work is gonna be $1400. I can tell that he was gonna decline it so he left and then I got a call that the claim got declined due to misuse and abuse. I explained to AHS that I just bought the house and this house was built in 1940. We just moved in March and I haven’t done any work to the shower other than what the warranty work has done both two times.

I appealed American Home Shield’s decision to decline. They said that they might charge another $125 and I didn’t like that. But other than that, AHS handled it well. They timely managed it. They then sent somebody over and it was the same guy that came the first and second time and he listed it. He said that the third guy was wrong and that we can tell that the faucet is just wearing terribly. The faucet is the original 1940s faucet. He said that it is wear and tear and that the warranty should have covered it. He also said that it would only cost 400 if I pay that out of pocket. He fixed the faucet and we haven’t had any issues since.

It was hot this week and the air conditioner wasn’t cooling. We called American Home Shield and they sent a company called United. United opened the thermostat and all of a sudden, they realized that it was a Carrier Infinity and that they can't work on those. They told us that we had to call somebody else and left. AHS took a week then they assigned two other companies. I was able to ask those companies prior to them coming out if they service Carrier Infinity and they said they do not. AHS then gave us A-Advanced, who said that they could work on the unit.

A-Advanced came out and they found one part they said they thought was the problem. When they changed it, the unit started to cool. Then, when they opened up the thermostat, it fell off in their hands. Apparently, that first company had not put it back on right and they broke some wire in it. The techs from A-Advanced then left saying they have to get the part and it has been about a week now.

We've also had a lot of problems with this A-Advanced company. My husband talked to its owner and cleared things up then set an appointment for the fifth. My husband drove back to the house for an hour and a half for it and he waited three hours, but they never showed up. They said that the appointment was a mistake and that it should not have been set. The guy who called me was a little bit rude about it, too. He said that the thermostat might be fixed with a $15 part, and that they finally got it. They’re supposed to be coming this week but we have not heard back from them.

We've also been told by them and by American Home Shield that we would have to pay for whatever is wrong with the thermostat because they don’t cover that. That angers me a bit with American Home Shield because it was the first company they sent to my house that broke it. There was nothing wrong with that thermostat until they took it off. I have contacted AHS about the issue and they called me back yesterday. I told them where we stood and that we’re still here waiting on the guy to call us back with the part. This experience has been terrible and we’re two weeks without an air conditioner.

I have three homes and they all have American Home Shield on them. I have always recommended American Home Shield but now I'm concerned. They have gotten much better when it comes to their phone call because you can actually get through to them now, but the problem is that nobody is responsible for anything and they’re not able to do anything for me because of the rules. Also, I needed a simple repair on something not long ago and there were two companies that we’ve used in the past but they won’t work for AHS anymore.

We had a washing machine claim for the exact same problem submitted to American Home Shield three times and it will be the third time that they have come out to try to repair it which sounded like an airplane taking off. It was spinning but it’s really loud. It was a GE washer and AHS sent three different people. The first time it was not a GE person, but the next ones were GE service people. The first and third guy were very outgoing. They told me what was going on and when the part would be in. The second guy had to come twice with each trip because he needed a part and he didn't have it on their truck. I work 35 minutes from where I live and I had to take a couple of hours off of work. Then once the parts got here, he came in and did it again. But on each time, the three of them replaced what I seem to think the exact same part. It’s been two months now and no problems yet but we're hoping that whatever the technician did this time will work.

We've had American Home Shield for three years and each year, I've had increases in my monthly premium. When our garage door wouldn’t go up and down, a very nice man came out and said that it didn't come under my coverage. I’m not an electrical person to count for anything so when he said that he had to replace it and it’s not covered, I don’t know if what he replaced was what was not covered. And it cost me another 250 bucks. Other than that, American Home Shield does come out. It was expensive but it was nice.

Since 2016, we've had multiple claims through American Home Shield on our AC because it keeps leaking into our pan. We don’t know why and I don’t think it should be leaking. We've paid the deductible for people to come out and and every time, it's one little $5 fix. My pan was not good and they got me a new one. The last person who came out months ago left this cover on and they weren’t supposed to so the technician took the cover off. The last person put the cover in the wrong place so then the technician had to move it to the other place.

In the most recent one, the contractor said they fixed our primary drain, pressure-hosed and cleared it out. That way it wouldn’t go out of our secondary drain. But the issue wasn’t that the primary and the secondary drain weren’t working. The issue was that our AC shouldn’t be dumping that much water in the first place. So we had to call them back out. But we still haven't gotten that resolved and I'm not happy.

When we call American Home Shield, it's usually because water is pouring out our front door. It's actually caused damage to our ceiling. We noticed that the next time we called after the AC people came out and said they fixed it. So obviously, it's wasn’t fixed and it's even caused damage. I called American Home Shield at that point, complained and asked if they were gonna cover the damage because we were going through the company that they sent out. They said no, that we had to call the AC company and that they would deal with it. But the AC company said that wasn’t their fault, to talk to American Home Shield and that they would cover it. So everybody is pretty much pointing the finger to the other person and leaving us with the damage.

Overall, we're not that happy. Our house was 10 years old when we bought it and we got the home warranty in case the AC goes out. That was the biggest reason that we got the warranty for. I usually use the online thing to submit a claim and that’s easy to do, and they do send people out. But American Home Shield’s customer service is not the issue. It's who they are sending out, AC-wise. My sister got rid of the service already for the same issue with their AC. We're debating on even keeping it and I don’t think it's worth it. They've surpassed the four years that we've had them without resolving my same issue. We've been putting more money into the warranty than it would cost for us not to have it, call an AC person of our choice to come out and fix it the first time and not deal with all of this further damage.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for our air conditioner and I got a response almost immediately from the contractor. But the air conditioner was the same as it was before the service. The contractor said that there was some stuff in the air conditioner that just needed to be cleaned out. I contacted American Home Shield twice about it and the contractor came out the second time. But he said the air conditioner was fine and there wasn't anything he could do.

Our washing machine was doing a violent movement when it was on the spin cycle where it actually would move itself across the floor. We had one vendor through American Home Shield come out and said the problem was the floor. And I had a contractor come out and another structural engineer looked at the subbasement and said the floor was fine.

I requested a second opinion and from that, the Sears people contracted through A&E. They came out and said the problem was in the system, the springs that hold the drum and also like a shock absorber. In trying to fix that, the technician broke one of the feet that was on the pedestal and so the thing was sitting on three feet and a wooden board that I had. The washer was not getting fixed and we had a total of seven visits from the Sears people. Their problem was that they couldn’t find the pedestal.

We sent a video of the washing machine to the local representative for AHS to show how violent it was and a history of the visits. The person came back and said they would not be able to fix it. They gave us a fixed dollar amount to replace it, so we’ve replaced the unit with the same washer but a newer model, and it has worked out fine.

The whole thing could've been done quicker, but because of the availability of the technician's schedule along with our traveling where the next scheduled event was due for a week that we were out of town and we had to move it back to when we got back into town, it wound up being about three months. Still, I am very satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. It took only about a week for us to receive the amount and although they didn't fix the washer, by replacing the machine, that fixed the problem.

And of those contractors who have come out, half of them were professional and half of them weren’t. Recently, American Home Shield assigned someone to fix my air conditioner but the contractor called me and said that they don’t fix our particular air conditioner. I was surprised that they don't fix all kinds of AC but that’s okay. I also filed a claim for an electrical issue but the problem went away so I cancelled the service. Still, having a warranty is very good.

Our air conditioning for our house wasn't working and it was making a lot of noise. We called American Home Shield and told them about it. They then assigned a company to come out, and they came a couple of days later. They were very professional and courteous. They told us what was going on, and explained everything. They also told us the probable causes and then said that they were gonna take care of it. So they changed my furnace and the platinum on top. They were quick, they were just here for two hours and they cleaned up after themselves. And since the repair, it's nice and cool again in my house. Having a warranty is very valuable, and I would tell neighbors to get American Home Shield. Everybody that I know that had AHS and then dropped it after they bought their house wishes that they still had it.

The main issue with the washer before was that it would stop working and then I couldn’t get it going again. And also, one of the sections didn’t work, like the one I used all the time for nets. So, all of that stuff in there was replaced. A couple of weeks ago, I was trying to get my washing going and then it stopped again. I couldn’t get it going, so I let it sit for two to three hours. I went back and I got it going. But then the next day, it did it again, although it was in a different place. So, I called and set up the appointment with American Home Shield and the contractor came and looked at it.

However, it was working when they were here. They told me to call them and not do anything else the next time it does that. They told me not to try to get it to go so that they can see what’s wrong. They said they really couldn’t diagnose it if it wasn’t doing it at that particular time. I’m waiting to see and I have 30 days on that service fee to see about if it is going to continue to work or not.

So far, everything’s been good and we recommend American Home Shield to friends. We use it and we are happy with it so far. They have replaced some equipment and they get it handled quickly usually. Having a warranty on a property is useful, but, at times like this when a problem is hard to diagnose and we have already spent $200, a washing machine doesn’t cost that much. I’m hoping that this problem can get resolved before we have to pay another hundred in four or five months to get somebody in here again.

It depends on what appliance is going on and how many times people had to come back before it's issued that it needs to be replaced. I did that on my stove and they replaced my stove, but it took around six trips out here to get it finally handled. It’s situational. I’ve had some things that were done rapidly and some things that were dragged out but that depends on the situation. I’m glad we have the warranty because it helps me from having to try and find somebody to fix something. It’s convenient for me to have it because they handle it. I don’t wanna go shopping and I don’t wanna have to worry about delivery.

The air conditioner was getting really loud. I filed a claim with American Home Shield on the phone and usually when I call them, I have a long wait. But this time, I didn't have a long wait. I've also submitted a claim online before and it seemed to go pretty smoothly. Somebody from Scott Heating & Air came out the next day and it worked out really well. He talked to me first to find out what was the problem then I showed him where the unit was. He went out there, diagnosed it, and fixed all at the same time. And he came in and told me that he had replaced the fan. Everything has been operating really well since the repair.

I'm glad I have AHS because I bought a new home and I didn't know what all my needs were. I also had some problems with the furnace and American Home Shield got that working better than the service I asked for from another company. So, I was happy with that. And I thought i was having problems with the hot water heater, but that ended up being resolved. I also had some issues with my bathroom faucet leaking all the time and I was able to have that as a cash-out, so the warranty also covered part of the repair on that.

But it was said that my garbage disposal was covered and American Home Shield didn't end up covering its replacement. The disposal was clearly not working and it wouldn't grind the good. I had to get somebody else to do it so, I was disappointed with that. So, even though I had some good service, I would tell others to look around because I had an extensive bill on the disposal which, in writing, should have been covered.

We bought a new house and we wanted to make sure we were covered at the beginning for things that we didn’t know. Friends then recommended American Home Shield to us. We also did our homework and looked into other warranties but we decided to go with AHS based on reviews and personal reviews from friends. And they lived up to all of those for us. We're happy that we have them. Our drawer dishwasher has given us a fault code and our standalone icemaker was making ice nonstop. I submitted the claims online and I was surprised at how easy it was to do and how quick it was. We had a different home warranty before and it was not a good experience. We debated even getting a home warranty because of that. But we've had a whole different experience with AHS.

A guy from The Repair Shack then came and he was great and really friendly. They contacted me ahead of time and asked about what was going on. He also came with the parts. It was great because normally, a repairman shows up, gets an assessment, and then goes and orders parts. So it’s usually like a two-step process. There were still other parts that needed to be replaced but he had the parts that he thought needed to be replaced and it was great. I thought having AHS would just be a one-year thing to get us through possible major repairs that come when you move into an older house but we might end up keeping it because it seems to be worthwhile. I would recommend them to anybody else.

And we really didn’t notice the issue until we were outside doing yard work and every time it would try to spin up, it would have this really loud buzzing noise. It had to be at least two or three days that we had been hearing the buzzing. We went online to submit the claim to American Home Shield and it was easy. I logged into the website, there was a couple of pull downs and after hitting "Submit", there was a text message that popped up saying that somebody would call me shortly.

We submitted the claim on a weekend and somebody called on Monday and we had someone come out. The guy who came was an older gentleman and he asked me what was going on. I explained to him the buzzing noise as we were going through the house and he said that it was a switch and went through his diagnostics. He was a nice guy and he explained everything he was doing when he was doing it. Also, he pointed out other things that we need to watch out for. The air conditioner is now working so it's keeping the house cool which is a good thing.

I started to submit a claim online with American Home Shield, but I didn’t finish it, so I called them. My experience with the claims reps was great. They had to make a note that if they had to go up under the house, it needs to be a really small person because the opening is really small. The rep put that in. I tried to put in two things when I went online which was the pipe that had a leak, but it would not allow me to put both. It only allowed me to put one. But she was able to add the other one in. Once I filed the claim, I got a confirmation from KMS Plumbing in less than 45 minutes after and then later that evening, I got another confirmation saying what day they'd be out. They came the next day.

There was a stoppage in my kitchen because the water wouldn’t go down the sink. We tried plunging and none of that worked. We thought the pipe under the sink had a crack in it and when the plumber checked it out, it didn’t have a crack. He had to put a rubber seal in there where it was leaking. He used a snake and it cleared it straight out. He was very professional and very sweet. He did a great job and he did what he was supposed to. He even cleaned up and made sure he didn’t leave a mess. I had water all in the bottom of my sink even though I had taken everything out and he made sure that it was like nothing had ever happened.

It was a great experience. It was our first time filing a claim because we just got American Home Shield a couple of months ago and never had to file one. It could wind up being something major on our unit and if something went out with that, we've got to come up with several thousand dollars. I told my husband that we could call a plumber to come out. They will charge us about an hour and it could be more than what we had to pay which is $125. The warranty was worth it and very convenient.

He said he received a lot of calls about similar things because of the power fluctuations around Tampa. He solved the issue right then and also gave us some advice on how to maintain the equipment.

It was working well until recently. The power was out for a couple hours on Sunday. Now, the washing machine is not filling again and I’m a little concerned about that. And then I realized the carpet was wet. I pulled it up and then I saw how much water was on the floor and soaking into the walls. I called American Home Shield and their rep put the information in and said they would send a field assessor who then came a couple of days later. By the time they came in, the vanity had been removed and the floorboards for my appliances were in the living room. Dry Max did that. And they were referred by the plumbing service that responded to the call.

Dry Max also turned the water off. And then when the plumbers came, they went under the sink and they replaced the hose. I received a call from the insurance company that the claim had been settled, but there’s no check yet. And I can’t do anything until I have a check from the insurance company because from then, that’s when I'd get the contractor. But American Home Shield was good because they sent the people over. They're worth it. And having the warranty is much safer when you have to have work done because you’re not worried about whether or not the workers qualify or if they’re going to rip you off.

Have been trying to get a cash in lieu payment as I can get a whole new filter from my pool people $300 cheaper than the pool company that they sent me. The pool people were very nice and told me they could fix it for $600 or replace it for $1200. I have been trying for a week now to get a quote from American Home Shield. First I was told it would take 2 days, then when I called after 2 days they told me 3-5 days. When I called after 5 days I was told another 2-3 days by Amber who seemed to be reading from a script and kept repeating the same lines over and over.

I asked for a supervisor and was told I could not speak to one until they had a quote. Each person that I spoke to had a different response and none solved the issue. In this day and age it should not take a week to get a quote for anything! The pool has been out of service for 2 weeks and I have a house full of children. These people have a script to read from and are not willing to help you. I have had this policy for at least 6 years and calling is always hard. Repair people are always nice and get things fixed. It is just the company itself that is very difficult to deal with. I plan on cancelling this policy as soon as this problem is resolved.

We pay $60 dollars a month for coverage and after the inspection of the air conditioning unit we were told that it would cost us $1500 dollars to get it repair. What am I paying monthly for. I will be canceling them ASAP.

After 3 months, dozens of calls, and multiple excuses, my issue is still not resolved. Bear with me, it’s a long one, but the fact that the story is long, should tell you that this company does not care about their customers and they have no interest in replacing the items that they supposedly cover. Here is what has happened:

Day 1: First hot day of the year in April, so we switch on the AC to find that it is not blowing cool air. Submitted a request to AHS on 04/22/18 regarding AC not working. No response. One Week later: Tried to call assigned technician to set up an appointment to have him take a look at the AC. Left a message. No response. 05/07/18: Re-submitted request. No response.

05/23/18: Re-submitted request. Finally Technician called to set up an appointment. 05/26/18: Technician came out to look at AC. He did some stuff with the AC unit, the thermostat and the furnace. He determined that the Furnace Fan is not working and he found rust in the gas exchange as well, which meant that there was a possibility of gas being leaked. He stated he would look for the part, but since the unit is old, it would be difficult to find, also that it was just a quick fix, it looked like the furnace would have to be replaced really soon. He said he would let me know within one week if he was able to find the part.

One week later: No call from technician. Called him and left a message for him to call back and let me know what’s going on, it’s getting hot, no AC. No response. One more week later: still no response from technician, so called AHS to find out what was happening. After multiple attempts to call (their systems seem to be “down” a lot…) I was able to speak to a person. She made multiple attempts to contact the technician herself to no avail. After a bit of coaxing, I was able to have her set up a different company to send someone out. It was obvious that this technician had zero communication skills, and it was important to me to have someone come out ASAP to fix the issue.

Next day: Another agency contacted me and set up an appointment to come out and look at my AC. The Technician came over, looked at my AC and then looked at my thermostat. He immediate said that he cannot fix my issue because apparently someone messed with the wiring and he did not want to take responsibility for anything going wrong. (What?) He quickly left and advised me to speak to AHS regarding my issue.

Next Day: Spoke to AHS, again after multiple phone calls and waiting on hold for absurd amounts of time. They had no answers for me other than to go back with the previous technician who doesn’t know how to return voicemails (Great!) She attempted to contact him and miraculously was able to speak to him. She said that he stated that he found a part for my furnace that “might” work. It would have been nice for him to call me and let me know, right? Oh well, It’s getting hot so I set up an appointment for him to come back to my place and fix the fan into the furnace.

So now we are THREE weeks post his first visit to our place and EIGHT weeks post my initial request to AHS. He arrived with a universal fan which he was unable to mount in the furnace. He recommended at that point to replace the whole unit. He said he would immediately contact the AHS to advise them of his findings. This was on a Wednesday.

I didn’t hear anything from anyone, so on the following Monday I called AHS to see what was going on. Again after the normal multiple calls, and systems being down, and being on hold for ridiculous amounts to time I was able to speak to someone who told me that the technicians actually have up to 48 business hours to contact them regarding their service request updates. SO, I have to wait some more. Mind you we are at 105 degrees weather and no working AC. So I waited. No update, of course. I called again, and again, and again. And again. No response. Multiple disconnections. Systems are down. I’m PISSED.

I finally get a call. (Yay!) It was from someone at the AHS department to remind me that my warranty is expiring soon, and he wanted to help me renew. Excuse my profanity but ** NO! I have ZERO interest in renewing my warranty with you. ZERO. I told him if he could have someone call me who can update me on what is going on with my AC/Furnace repair. He said he would have someone call me. (Right)

I waited a couple of days, but after no response from neither the technician, nor AHS, I called again. After the obligatory waiting on hold and getting disconnected from the clowns that work there, I was finally able to speak to someone with half a brain. She said that AHS has ordered a part for my furnace and are having it shipped to the technician to have him install into my furnace.

Again, what? I explained that the technician already explained that the original part was no longer available and he had already tried a universal one that was not so universal; it didn’t work. The person on the phone explained that they have access to other suppliers, so the part that they ordered should work for me. But what about the issue with the rust in the gas exchange and the possible gas leakage and carbon monoxide stuff. No, we don’t care about that we want to just have your AC blow cold air. She assured me that this is all I need to get my issue resolved.

At this point I’ve lost patience, lost faith in this company and it’s freaking hot in Sacramento. I had no choice but to say okay and asked for a timeframe for the part to be delivered to the technician. She said 2 to 4 days. Five days went by. Obviously no call from nobody. So I called (anybody keeping count of how many calls I’ve made? I am: 15 so far.) The agent I spoke to said that the part should have been delivered so she will contact the technician to find out what is going. He didn’t have it. SO she called the supplier.

Well, the supplier told her that the part got sent back to them because it was delivered to the wrong address. Is there a word that explains the feeling of fire bursting through your head and your ears? Well, that is what I was feeling at this point. I expressed my frustration, of course, so the agent assured me that the supplier now has the correct address and they would be overnighting the part to the technician.

I waited a couple more days. I called the technician, he didn’t pick up of course but I figured out after multiple times that if I call again immediately without leaving a message he would pick up the phone. He stated that he still did not receive the part and this time HE called AHS and they told him that the part was sent to good ol’ Houston, Texas. That makes total sense, right? It’s not too far from Sacramento, CALIFORNIA.

06/28/18: I called AHS again. At this point I call them more than I call my own mother. I got the pleasure of speaking to a guy named “Tom” Employee number **. The rudest, most despicable person I have ever spoken to in the history of my life. This guy refused to help me. He said that he can’t do anything for me. I asked him for a moment to check my account and see how many times I’ve spoken to them regarding this issue. He said he only sees about 4 or 5 calls. (Ha!) I asked to speak to a supervisor, not wanting to waste another single moment on this ignoramus. He stated he would have someone call me within 24 to 48 hours.

I hung up and called again. I spoke to a wonderful person named Brandie. She stuck with me on the phone, answered all my questions, but still unable to tell me why the part was shipped to Houston. Conclusion, AHS: they lie. She assured me that a supervisor would call me today. A supervisor by the name of Wilond called me. He was not much better than Mr. Tom. He said that the address was never actually updated and it’s the technician's fault for not keeping his address up to date. Mind you, the technician is located in California… So whatever. He said that NOW the address is correct and they will have the part delivered to the technician. I asked him about their customer service training. I suggested that they get Tom some help with tact and overall education. He needs to be working in a basement with no human contact.

So here we are. On the Consumer Affairs website, leaving a complaint. No working AC, and 107 degree weather. Do you think it is a coincidence that my warranty contract is expiring next month and AHS has been dragging their nasty feet for the last three months? Maybe. Do you think that having over 10,000 complaints on the Better Business Bureau and thousands of negative comments on the Consumer Affairs website, Facebook and other social media are an indication of their severe lack of ethical standards? Yeah. Any suggestions on what I should do now?

I have never had such terrible customer service in my life. When I call I am often on hold for 20 minutes for them just to tell me their systems are down and to call back later. I have also been "disconnected" several times with no return call from the person I was speaking with. The electricians they sent were inexperienced and left gaping holes around the outlets they fixed... I have been desperately trying to get my AC fixed for over a month but the contractors they use don't know what they are doing and don't show up half of the time.

It is going to be over 100 and we still have no AC. I have had to rearrange my schedule or take off work on 7 different occasions in order to be home for the AC people to come out. The plumbers they sent took 3 days to come out. Meanwhile I had 4 inches of sewage in my shower and couldn't use my water. Their plumbers told me it wasn't covered and would cost several thousand to repair. Luckily, I was able to contact my own plumber to come out and actually fix the problem for $125. If it weren't so horrible, it would almost be funny how extremely awful their service is. I have paid $225 to have their contractors come out and not one thing has been fixed correctly. It is beyond frustrating.

The first year they sent someone out to charge it up but we had to pay for each pound of Freon they use. The next year we come then they back out and the same people came. This time they found a leak and we had to pay for the Freon again. 2 weeks later it stopped working again. They claim they found some more leaks and we paid for Freon again. 2 weeks later it was out again. Taking this is in July in Alabama so they sent out a senior Tech out this time. They check the inside piece and it had to be replaced it. That took 2 more weeks.

Well this year when we start the unit up it not cooling again so we call again and this time they are telling me the unit has 3 recalls on the unit that I was not inform of and since it has been over 65 days I can use that for a reason so now I am out another service fee for the same thing from 3 years ago. Did a little research and find some more people that have American Home Shield and they have been going through the same thing. I really need for someone to look into the company. They are robbing people blind. Thanks.

I had experience before with my pool heater and AHS told me they would send somebody out here. The contractor looked at it and he said because I had a chlorine dispenser on the unit they couldn't replace or cover it. He told me they would put the claim in. He said he didn’t see that there was gonna be a problem but he couldn’t answer for the insurance company. Then all of a sudden, that became a problem. So I felt like they were just looking for loophole not to pick it up. When I called back the girl really didn’t explain it clearly. They read the paragraph or line under the contract and I’m not a lawyer. That shows they did their homework. But I wasn’t too happy with the end result because I tried to explain that the chlorinator was never used.

The chlorinator was installed when the pool was built 12 years ago and I’ve never used it. So the fact that it was there shouldn’t have changed anything. I didn’t wanna argue so I had to go out and spend $2,700 for a new pool heater. After spending $2,700 I don’t think they were fair in that. It was too cut-and-dry and they had somebody just call and kind of blow me off. Somebody should be a little bit more explanatory about why it was turned down. Somebody could’ve come out and said, “Let me send another pool company out,” and let them give me an estimate of what it was.

But I like the second experience. AHS sent Roccas Pool because the filter of our spa had a crack in it and was leaking. I explained what it was to the claims representative and she said she would submit the claim. We did the paperwork and she said they would have a local company contact me and schedule an appointment to come and look at it and see what it was. She explained to me that was $100 charge that I have to pay and asked if I wanna pay right then or later. I said after work was done and they had my credit card. The pool service company contacted me and the contractor was excellent. He replaced the part that was leaking and I had no problems. The repair, if I paid for it myself, would’ve cost me about $600 and I pay $600 in premiums a year. So right now, I’m probably just waiting to see what happens. Hopefully, nothing goes wrong and I don’t have to make a claim.

We always recommend American Home Shield. It's real quick to submit claims online and we pay upfront. But when the air conditioner goes out, we're sometimes waiting up to five days to get it fixed. That's the only thing that I ever really see as a problem, especially living in South Georgia. There's rarely somebody readily available. But this is the third year in a row that we've had Freon done here and the contractors themselves were pleasant. We live in an area where nobody is ever on time but they showed up pretty close to on time. Our AC wasn't working and the temperature wasn't getting cold. The contractors explained everything and the technician fixed the AC. That was three months ago and the AC has been going great since then.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I do it by phone as I have found that I get a slower response time when I do it online. When I talk to a human being, it seems to work out better. I usually get a response within a day based on my experience. As far as American Home Shield goes, it has always been a pleasant experience. I had issues in the past where I did not have a good service from a different air conditioning company.

One thing I had learned is to look into who is coming and read the reviews ‘cause American Home Shield take the cheapest contract and sometimes that is not good. When I go on to Angie’s List or other sites and find that the review is 1 star or less, I have the option to change it up to different companies. Because I've had people show up at my house with no identification and an unmarked car. I also got one of them to come into my house and they don’t even have a magnet or a sticker on their car, or a name tag, or at least a logo on their shirt. And I don't like letting somebody random into the house. Other than that, I've had air conditioning issues a lot in this house and it was not necessarily the air conditioning itself. It was through the ventilation of the air conditioning. But everything is working good right now, so I have no complaints.

We had a sump pump go bad in all the rain, and I called Home Shield to submit a claim for it. Their representative was fine, but it took about five days for a gentleman to come out here, which was a little lengthy. And if it had continued to rain without a sump pump, my basement may have been flooded. When the young man came out and checked the sump pump out, he said it was bad and we needed it replaced. I knew he was bringing the lowest type of sump pump that Home Shield gave to replace it but I had known from friends that had Home Shield that sometimes, customers can get an upgrade. So I paid the young man for the upgrade and he came and put a heavy-duty one, which was what I wanted because very inexpensive sump pumps don't last and I can't afford to put a product in here that I don't feel conformable with.

The young man who came out, the contractor, and Home Shield communicated, and the work that was done was good. The only thing I wanted was a change in the type of sump pump that Home Shield gives. Also, every time Home Shield sends someone to come out, it costs $100. I had a belt that went bad in my washing machine the other time that Home Shield had somebody come out, and I paid $100 plus the labor for that one. And just to put a belt on my washing machine would not have cost that much. The service fee bothers me because I have two houses under Home Shield. But overall, I'm satisfied. Home Shield can help people save money on large items, but they may not be that helpful with the smaller things that need to be repaired in the house.

American Home Shield is a pretty good home warranty company that looks out for their customers. Every representative I have spoken to on the phone has been friendly, accommodating and respectful. And the companies they've been sending out have been doing a good job of taking care of the problem. However, with my most recent claim with them, I wasn’t satisfied with the customer service I received. First of all, I had to wait on the line forever before someone would actually pick up to help. And I’m not sure if it was totally their fault but they sent out a company to work on a leak that I had but they didn't and couldn't do anything. They just told me to call back American Home Shield and let them know. So I did and American Home Shield assured me that I would not be charged an additional $75 fee because the company was not able to do anything.

I was hoping that somebody would be able to come out as soon as possible, like the next morning which was a Saturday, because everything was soaked and my house began to smell a reek of mildew. I was told somebody would come the next day but no one did. Then, I was told somebody would come on Sunday, but it didn’t happen as well. I was calling in the entire time trying to figure out what was gonna happen.

American Home Shield didn't put in the report as urgent so when I called the plumbing company to ask whether or not they were coming out, they said it was the weekend so their office was closed. But if it was an emergency, then they would come out. It was just a whole lot of miscommunication during the whole process. Anyway, the company ended up coming out on Monday or Tuesday. they fixed the problem and I was pleased with that. However, I received two invoices in the mail to pay $75 for them coming out when I was told I would not be charged for it. So I called in today, talked to their representative and paid over the phone. But even though there were a lot of miscommunication, issues and frustrations, in the end, everything turned out all right. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

We had the AC running but it was not cooling the house so I submitted the claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. It was easy and I got the response I needed. My cousin let the contractor in and she said it took him five minutes to find the problem. It had something to do with the electrical. Something came loose and he was able to check it and put it back together. I would probably be homeless if I didn’t have American Home Shield. i recommended AHS yesterday to someone and gave them the company info.

I've been using American Home Shield for several years and it's good. I filed my most recent for my dryer that was not getting warm enough and was not drying clothes in a timely manner. After I went online and submitted the claim, I got a text message of who is gonna come. The contractor, Hays, called me and set an appointment up, and then, they came and had to order some parts. And it took about 10 days for them to get the parts and they came out and repaired the dryer. I was very pleased with the contractor. They were really nice and they were on time. All in all, my experience with American Home Shield has been great and my policy is due to be renewed in August and I will renew it. I have also recommended them to friends and family.

When I first sent the claim in for our refrigerator, it was assigned to A & E Appliance Repair and the contractor never came. I had an appointment scheduled for the day after, which I thought reasonable. It was supposed to be sometime afternoon but until 5:00, there was nobody here. So I called Home Shield who then put me on hold and called A & E. We were told that the technician said that I refused him at the door. But that was not the case. My driveway's over a quarter mile long. He wouldn't see the house from the street and I have a detector on the driveway so I know when somebody is coming up. It never went off and we were home all day. He never came to my door. So the representative tried to reschedule it but it was gonna be a week and a half later and that was not acceptable. I told her that in fact, I didn't want A & E to come again and I asked for somebody else.

She said they have AAR and I said we would go with them. They had been here before and I was happy with their work. So she reassigned the job to them and AAR called me later the same day. It was going to be several days before they could get out but then they called back short of that time. They said they had a cancellation and asked if the technician could come in then. We were here so I said yes.

He came and looked the fridge over but he couldn’t find a leak anywhere. The refrigerator is getting old and he said something in the compressor wasn’t working at optimal. It’s causing the cooling coils inside the refrigerator to frost up. When that frost melts, it goes onto the floor. He did what he thought was gonna solve the problem. He insulated that tube and it didn’t have any more trouble with it until a couple of days ago.

But still, I’ll recommend American Home Shield. We’ve been in this house for four years and we've had several claims with American Home Shield. They have solved the problems with the air-conditioning and the furnace. The furnace was easy. It was an igniter relay had gone bad. But the air-conditioning worked only a couple of times one year and then the next year, it out was again. They actually brought out that system and we got a new one installed. I’m waiting to see what my premium goes up to this year with my experience. But hearing some people talk about some of the other companies, I’m glad I went with the one I did. American Home Shield was recommended by my realtor. She said she had never heard a lot of complaints about AHS and their website is not difficult to navigate even for an old guy like me.

I have been pleased with American Home Shield. I had a leaking freon issue and the first company that they were with was not good. However, the second company was awesome. The first company contacted within 24 hours, but then they never followed up. You can't live without AC here in North Carolina. Then I called and AHS canceled it and we went with the next one -- Comfort. Comfort was really good and I would give them a 5-star. I liked their customer service and quickness. They could come the next day. They are working from sunup to sundown, and I can see where people think that if they have to reach out and contact somebody in 24 hours, then they can wait a month to get in touch with them. But, that was not their mentality at all.

I would highly recommend AHS, especially to those who have all new appliances and something can go wrong. Somebody comes out to tell you that you need to get your head out of the ground and figure out that you did not hit the button right, instead of somebody charging you $150 an hour. So, that is worth it in itself.

Submitting the claim was easy but I found out that there weren't any manager since it was on a weekend. I had a one-year old and it was hot outside and the air conditioning is not working. Some people were helpful, but some people weren't. They sent somebody out who didn't know what they were doing. So then we were rushing on a Saturday trying to get somebody else out. But all in all, it ended up getting fixed. But I ended up having to buy a window unit to get everything handled. I had to stay in a hotel at first night because we weren't sure what we were doing. We weren't well informed. They told me that they would help a bit with the reimbursement of the window unit and someone called me and left a message saying they will call me back the following day. But she never called me back and she didn't leave a phone number.

It just seemed that the customer service folks at American Home Shield don't know what was going on, and they don't have a lot of information. I spent like six hours on the phone that weekend. I was on hold for probably an hour at one point, a couple of different times. So, it was just frustrating. But I've had a couple of other experiences where things have went out, and American Home Shield was great. I had the one bad experience where I really needed them, and it was an emergency and they weren't able to help. It was a little disappointing.

I had the general manager out to my property. He was fantastic, super nice, took a look at the HVAC for me as well while he was out there just to make sure that there were no issues with that that they would have to come back out for. He took care of it all in one appointment and he said he was perfectly fine doing that. Since the repair, there were no issues at all. And so far, AHS has been fantastic to work with.

And then, the technician that fixed the issue, we paid him around $800 out of my pocket because he said, "American Home Shield don’t want to do it, so you will have to do it out of your pocket and then they will reimburse you." But nobody called me. We tried to call them many times and every time they say, “Oh, we cannot talk about previous services because system is down, but we can take new orders.” So I’m still waiting for them to call me back to see how they're gonna do this. The AC is working great but I’m not satisfied at all with this last service that we did with them.

When our air-conditioner wouldn’t shut off and kept on freezing up we submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. There have been two to three people who came out here trying to figure out why it kept on freezing up, and one person said it was a leak and they fixed the leak but it turned out it didn’t. So this guy found a different leak. Since various air-conditioner people been out here three or four times in the last two or three years, they finally recommend us to get a whole new unit and they had that done within less than two weeks.

We now don’t have to come home to the air-conditioner freezing up and a hot house in a 100-degree weather and take our daughter somewhere she should be cool ‘cause the hot weather causes her asthma attack. It just seems odd that we have a unit now that we don’t have to keep wondering if it had shut off ‘cause we can hear it shut off and it does sound like it's supposed to come back on like it’s supposed to.

Get American Home Shield if you ever want to buy a house. I’ve been constantly asking people and I found out that more and more people that have chosen to buy a house that AHS is who they have. One year we let it lapse and then we had some kind of issue and I was like, “Oh, no. We’re not gonna let this do again” because it cost us so much and we’ve been doing it ever since. It's convenient. After this one thing that cost us over $500, we got AHS back.

American Home Shield was recommended to me by the realtor that sold me my house. She had used them for a while and she had great experience with them. Since it was my first home, I went with hers and now, I have been with American Home Shield for over 10 years. Filing claims is easy. I do it online and I usually get a call within 24 hours, sometimes less. They’re definitely reliable. You get most things covered but just make sure you pay attention to what’s not covered.

I had an issue with my AC unit and they weren’t able to fix it. A coil needed to be ordered and it wasn’t part of the list of things that they covered. So I had to go outside and pay out of pocket for that. They didn’t even recommend someone else to come out. I went and found someone to come out and when they looked at it, it wasn’t even a coil issue. I wish AHS had better coverage on some things.

Still, my experience with them has been good. They sent someone to fix my gas stove because the top worked but the oven didn’t. But when the first contractor came, they couldn’t really fix the issue. They kinda fixed it but a couple of days later, it stopped working. So then they put in a request and informed American Home Shield that the situation couldn’t be fixed. Then American Home Shield went in for a second advice and had somebody else come out. When that contractor came out, they fixed it with no problem. I don’t know if the first contractor didn’t know what was going on and wasn’t aware of my stove situation. But the second contractor that came out did well. I have used the oven since then and I have not had any issues.

But once the contractor comes, that's where the problem is. AHS sent some people who came up with some argument that didn’t make sense. They were trying to find some avenue to stop or reject the claim. This makes economic sense for everybody because if AHS rejects it, then the contractor has to do it on their own. They said it wasn’t covered so AHS sent out a second opinion. The second party came and they’re working on it. It’s taking a little bit too long. I’m working with AHS but they are hard to deal with.

My garage door opener claim was the only one that didn’t go real good. When the garage door people called and asked me, I told them that the garage door was working but that the cover was falling apart and it almost hit my car. So I needed a new cover for it. But when the guy got out here, he said they can only fix it if it's broken, not if it's falling apart and still functioning. Why were they wasting my time if they were not gonna be able to fix it? If that’s the case, they should have said they don't do that and that I'm gonna have to replace it myself. I would've gone, bought one and put it up myself.

On top of that, AHS charged me $75 anyway for doing absolutely nothing and that part pissed me off. I told American Home Shield that I wanted my $75 back 'cause I was very clear and they said they have to listen to the call. But it's been a month since the technician was here and I have not heard anything back. American Home Shield is real quick about pulling their money out. So I liked it before when we had to pay the contractors when they got here, not pay in advance the $75. Had that been the case, I wouldn't have paid them for driving over here to say they can't do anything.

But in any type of business situations, you always have a one-off situation. I want to be sure I'm a little bit clearer and verified before I even pay because I don’t book it online. I call and talk to the people 'cause I'm old and I'm old school. If they want my business, they need to be talking to me. But except for this one instance, what American Home Shield does is good and I have recommended them. Getting a home warranty is a smart good thing to do. It makes sense. I work too hard for my money to give it away freely.

They fixed the microwave from 1985 and the starter to the oven that was delaying the start of my oven by 45 minutes to now just 20 minutes. Then they attempted to fix the freeze seal and just made it worse and now I have icicles growing out of the roof of my freezer and they say they won't fix it anymore. That they are done fixing it. So basically they ruined it and never addresses the knocking and pinging my refrigerator is having. They denied that service for whatever fine print they could get away with.

Then they were asked to fix my leaky faucet which the first plumber to them it was a water pressure problem and that was why it was leaking but if that was the case wouldn't they all be leaking? Come on... I'm blonde but I'm not DUMB! 2nd opinion guy saw the problem and did fix it... and thank you to him. Then I find out the crack in my bathtub was excluded. Great. Then they won't replace the Heater blower unit to my heater air conditioning unit (which was causing us to have $700 a month electric bills) because the last tenant cleaned the bowels out with replacing a the screws so it VOIDED the whatever that allows them the fix it for us. That was a $ 10,000 fix it ourselves (replacement) bill.

What are we paying all this money for if they are not going to help us out when we need it? The stove was really old and was leaking gas and had rusted through in spots and they told us that the rust was man made so they wouldn't cover it to be fixed. MAN MADE?!!! So our stove was condemned by the gas company but AHS wouldn't help up replace it so we had to pay for that too. Watch out for this company, they have lots of little clauses and ways to get out of helping you get things fixed. Over-all VERY DISAPPOINTED in this company. I received a notification right away that a service call had been set-up with Habit Plumbing in Escondido. Habit contacted me that day and said a technician would arrive on Friday a full 48 hours later. When the technician arrived he said his company only came to Ramona on Tuesdays and Fridays which is why I had waited 48 hours for service. He glanced at the water heater and said it would have to be replaced. He said he would submit his report that day and would probably return the following Tuesday to replace the heater.

On Tuesday the 26th, I contacted Habit to confirm that they would be onsite that day. They said they had not received approval from American Home Shield to proceed. I called AHS and they told me that had had some issues with their procurement department but that they would expedite my request. I called Habit back on Wednesday the 27th and they had not received approval yet. I contacted AHS and again was told that the issue was with procurement. On Thursday the 27th same discussion with Habit but when I called AHS that day they now claimed that they had not received the report from Habit yet. I called Habit again and they assured me that they had sent the report not just once but multiple times and had tried to call AHS to expedite. AHS still denies receiving the report and said they will still have to approve and authorize the replacement water heater when they finally get the report.

I expressed my frustration with Habit Plumbing and asked for another contractor to service my problem and AHS said they would charge me another fee if they referred me to another contractor. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the call center operator said she would have to ask for PERMISSION to put me on the supervisor call back list and that it might take several days for the supervisor to call me back apparently due to the high volume of customer complaints.

My water heater leak is now is flowing freely every time I turn it on to take a shower, etc. and has caused damage to the adjacent walls and is seeping under the walls and into my house. American Home Shield says they are not responsible for that damage and I should contact my homeowner's insurance. Absolutely terrible customer service from both of these companies Habit Plumbing of Escondido and American Home Shield. By the way my service call fee was processed instantly.

When I demanded that they prove how it can be frost damage when I had witnesses that the leak had recently started (the house is in Texas) they accepted to send another plumber for a second opinion.

They did and their story has changed now. The faucet is not covered because it's not attached to the foundation of the house. When I told them that about a year ago AHS had replaced exactly the same type of a faucet on the north side of the house they said that they had changed the rules and did not cover these type of faucets anymore. When I asked the lady to tell me why did they not give me a discount on the monthly fee they charge me since they unilaterally decided to lessen the items covered in our contract the AHS rep said that they do not offer discounts.

When I asked her to show me on Google the type of faucets they cover she pointed to the picture of the exact same faucet I was asking to be replaced. She then told me that she was going to have the plumber send pictures so that they could decide. A week and a half later I am writing this report because you can guess what happened. I also had to have the faucet replaced by paying out of pocket. Unfortunately, looking at the reviews of the other home warranty companies the horror stories are worse...

My air conditioner stopped working. I did the first claim with American Home Shield online. Unfortunately, the contractor has had to come out there four more times for the same problem and it's still an ongoing issue. So, I've had a bad experience and I'm very unhappy. This last time, I had the same company come out. For the last two months, I've paid about $3,000. Now, I need to buy a new unit and they're not going to do that, and it's 1,500 bucks out of my pocket. They want to keep me having them come out to repair my AC, but it's not repaired each time. It works for a day, then it's not working again, and then they come back out. They keep making me pay all that money. They're nickel-and-diming me to death and this has got to stop.

Whenever I call AHS, I have to go through an automated system and I give the particular reason that I'm calling for. Then the system says either that I'm still under warranty or that I'm gonna be charged. The very first time that repairs were done in the house for the AC, the electricity downstairs went out and I had to pay to have an electrician come out. So, they sent an electrician out and said everything was fine. Evidently, the technicians that have been doing the repairs don't know what they're doing because they kept having to come out and fix something, and then the problem turned out to be something else. But I'm stuck with them.

It has been two months that this has been happening and I've got renters in the house. It took two weeks to get the part that was needed because they misdiagnosed the issue and ordered the wrong part the first time. So, I had to rent a window AC for my renters because I felt so bad for them. They had no AC and te temperature was in the 90s and it was humid. A window AC isn't great but I went through the expense of renting it so they could sleep at night. Right now, I'm on the phone getting estimates for a new air conditioning system.

If this is how they do business and they're not willing to replace the appliance that's not functioning, there's no purpose my having their warranty. The repair cost is gonna have to come out of my pocket, but I got the warranty so I don't have to do that. I'll probably cancel my service with American Home Shield because I am paying $100 a month for something that's not taking care of the problem. I'd tell people to stay away from them.

We were with American Home Shield for two years about 10 years ago. We used them and they came in handy. Then we moved into a brand new house so we didn't need that. Now, we moved back into an older house so we have American Home Shield about four months this time around. I made sure I had it with that house. That came in handy 'cause our air conditioning went out within a year. It was the perfect solution for all the money problems. We didn't know that when it come up in the future as far as appliances and the coverage they had. It's the same thing with this house here. In fact, the owners just sold it. But then with it, we paid the difference to get the package that we want.

AHS is efficient and informative. Coastal Appliance came out to fix the ice maker. It was freezing in the back. The tech knew it was the second part, but AHS only let you replace one part at a time. You can't do something first, pay that work, do the second. They didn’t charge me for the recall to come back out for the second part. He knew it was that, but they don't want that for the answer. They want you to put one part at a time. It could be these two parts to replace both, but they only allowed to replaced one at that time. The tech said, "If you have any problems in a couple of weeks, just call me back." And he said, "You might, you might not. But I really think it's this other thing but they want me to replace this first, and it needs to be replaced." So, that's what he did. But they did a great job. I've had them twice and the guy is very professional, courteous, and knew what he was doing.

He told me different things that would have happened if it was something else, and it's not even close to being that. But he said this should fix it, and it has so far. He looks at them as the symptoms of the refrigerator, and he could tell pretty much from those years of experience, for certain things that are gonna happen. He wanted to replace both things ‘cause he said, “If I replaced this one thing, then I’m gonna have to replace the other. But they won't let me do that.” Maybe it would be okay, so that's why they went through the process twice on that. I had a friend who called me from Pennsylvania asking about American Home Shield. He was selling the house and he wanted to know who I use ‘cause where he wasn't happy with what he has. He knew I had used AHS before so I gave him the information. Hopefully, they get squared away and taken care of.

When I had a problem with the water heater, I was told that I can do the claim online but I called American Home Shield to speak with someone over the phone. It was a seamless process and I paid $100 for the deductible. The contractor came and looked at it and saw exactly what we had. They came back in and put another water heater. There were some things that AHS didn’t cover such as the disposal of it and for that of bringing up the code that I had to have so I ended up spending another $650 on it but it was worth it because water heaters were so expensive.

The contractor was good and he texted me when he was on his way. He was very polite and extremely flexible. I work at home and my time is on the phone conducting meetings and he worked around that. He came in and out pretty rapidly but I haven’t had to call him back to do any adjustments. Since then, everything has been going well and the water heater is doing what it’s supposed to do so I’m excited about that.

American Home Shield has been good but I was not happy with the company I got assigned to for the air conditioner. When I called to get a status, AAA All Brands Appliance said they had already ordered the part but when I called back, they said that American Home Shield has to order it. I called American Home Shield and they said that AAA already had the part. But AAA said they didn't and that they would contact me as soon as they got it. Like that, it took them 14 days just to get the AC part. That was a bit too long. I'm in Florida and I have a baby so it was difficult.

They said the problem was the compressor which that was replaced a year and one month ago. But according to them the compressor only has a one-year warranty and we missed it by a month. So they had to order a new one. The guy who came here knew a lot but he fixed the AC last week and it's broken again. It just stopped working. We already contacted American Home Shield and they've contacted the company. So they're coming back to see what's going on with it. I'm just waiting for them to give me a call so I can get the schedule.

Also, it got me a little discouraged that we had to pay for another Freon replacement and that stuff is not all that cheap. American Home Shield needs to check the company that they deal with. But still, they seemed very attentive and if they try to help to us, there's only so much they can do. I'm very happy with American Home Shield. When we had the dishwasher claim, technicians came and fixed it on the same day. When the washer went down, the contractor came in the next day and fixed everything. I travel a lot and I thought that with American Home Shield, my family will be safe because they don’t have to worry about looking for people. And I was very happy with those two claims.

Most recently, the thermostat went out and he said that it adjusted the temperature quickly. Apparently, everything is working fine. Filing that claim over the phone was fairly easy as well. My well went out and when the contractor American Home Shield sent came out we thought it was a mechanical issue. They replaced a pressure switch and then it continued to act up on me, so then they came back out again. And then they thought the water bladders, since they were so old, was causing the water pump to flex the weight off and on. So I called AHS again and they said that the water bladders weren't covered and because it was above ground I had to pay for that $1,600 out of pocket.

So then it continued to act up and when they came back out again, that time the pump had completely stopped working. They had to pull the pump and motor out and when they pulled that out, they replaced it and a piece of pipe that had a hole in it as well. And then I received a bill from Ingram Equipment for $2,300. At that point I'm like, "Whoa, wait a minute? What is American Home Shield covering at this time?" So a girl from the billing department of Ingram Equipment, said that what normally would happen was I would pay Ingram Equipment and then I would have to collect from AHS.

I said, "Wait a minute. That's not what I've ever done. American Home Shield has always paid, and I haven't had to pay upfront." So then the girl said, "Well that's what we want you to do." I was like, "Well, wait a minute. You want me to pay you, and then file with American Home Shield, how do I even know you guys are gonna bill them?" I'm just gonna call American Home Shield and say, "Hey, reimburse me for so much amount." They're not gonna do that. But I haven't heard from Ingram Equipment yet so I don't know what the deal is.

But AHS is great. I never had a problem with them for the 20 years I've used them. The reps are helpful. They'll put in and say, "We're gonna use these people" or "These people around you that work on your equipment." And when I submitted the claim for the water bladders, they even saw that. I don't think they were aware that the water bladders weren't covered, but they did call and email me to let me know that the water bladder wasn't covered. They were pretty much replacing parts as they went along and everything is working good now. The guys know what they're doing. It's just that with the water pump like that, you can't see the pump because it's underground, unless they pull it back up and look at it. But the next time I'm gonna try and go with a different well company because I didn't like that they wanted me to pay upfront and then collect with AHS.

They then sent me another contractor, RDW Appliance Repair, and the technician, Roland, was fantastic. He helped me and he went above and beyond to fix the issue. Although the service took a second time, the dishwasher's functioning has been excellent since the repair. The contractors that have sent out in the past have been hit-and-miss. I've had some with whom I've had great experiences and others where I've had mediocre experiences. Home Shield could improve the quality of the contractors that they send out and improve some of the customer experience.

However, I wish that there was a person that you can talk to because they asked if it was a certain type of unit and I had no clue. Then just to schedule an appointment and have to pay the $100 and you’re not even sure if that’s what you need help with. It should be done better.

Still, the contractor was very professional, and I liked him. He took his time to answer all of our questions. We, however, had to call him back out again because we started having an issue with our breaker after they fixed it, and they sent the same guy out. The unit is now working fine. It's written into my warranty when we bought the home last October that we would get a free septic pump, and so I got that set up. The reps were helpful but the contractor who came was HORRIBLE. He was from A-1 Septic. When he got there, he didn’t know how to work on the system and didn’t know how to even pump it, so they had to send another truck to do it. I was at work then and my wife called. She told me that the guy was saying that it was not the system that they have in their data so they can't do it. The guy said that we show a 500-gallon tank, and it's actually a 1,200-gallon or 1,500-gallon. We didn't set it up so I didn't know what they were talking about. I got a hold of them and I told them that we needed to get with American Home Shield and that we had nothing to do with them. We were not the ones who called them but American Home Shield.

Then after all that, I got a bill for $600. I asked them why they were billing me for it. It was gone through American Home Shield! They told me that I have to pay for it. I told them that it was through American Home Shield and that I have already paid the $75. And the lady I was talking to told me that she doesn't even know American Home Shield! Originally, when she told me that, I didn't think she was telling the truth because she finally admitted later that she realized she didn’t even know that American Home Shield used them. It surprised me that American Home Shield, a warranty company, would call for me. And the lady on the phone told me that she would call and get it fixed. And she did. She called over there and told them what they needed to know. So finally, we got our stuff pumped, but it was ridiculous. I'll never use that company.

Also, I paid for the whole thing but I got five emails from American Home Shield saying that I hadn't paid for it. The way I set it up was they take my card information and then it pays at the end of the service. I've done that every time. I had the bank statement shown in the paperwork. So I called American Home Shield. However, when you call the number, it hangs up on you every single time. It'll call, and it'll tell you you'll go through the process of who you wanna talk to. And as soon as you do it, it just hangs up. So I sent an email telling them that I was trying to call back and asking what was going on. Then finally, I was able to get through to someone, and she told me to send in the bank statement and everything that I needed to do to show that I paid for it, and so I did.

This is not the first time this has happened. This has happened like two or three times where it showed that I haven't paid, and then they come back and tell me that I didn't. But it seems like they show the payment, and it hasn’t come out of my checking account. It's been a couple of weeks and I haven't heard anything yet because I got past due, and they were gonna ding my credit. Also, A-1 Septic was trying to come after me for it until I finally had American Home Shield call them. I haven't heard back so I'm assuming they did. But I was heated with the lady, so she probably doesn’t wanna talk to me anymore. I've had good dealings with AHS other than the billing process. I love it. I'd recommend American Home Shield to everyone. I was talking to some people at church about it because it's worth it.

I normally call to file claims and the reps and I have always had a conversation that is very specific to what needs to be done. And they're very prompt in responding. Germano Appliance and Repair has come several times and they were wonderful. Germano is a man who owns his own company and has a lot of expertise in different appliances. He is excellent. The dishwasher was not turning on properly and it turned out that a fuse was out. One of the associates with Germano was in training and did a very good job. Jeffrey said that he was impressed with the way the young man had been trained and also the way that the owner of the company supervised him. Germano supervised exactly what he was doing the whole time. They repaired the dishwasher and we were back in business.

The problem we had is our refrigerator. It has been repaired before and the refrigerator is working fine now. But even though they’ve come out, turned it off and drained it, it’s still creating an ice buildup in the back of the door. We need to get someone out to see if the settings are correct or why the refrigerator still has an ice buildup. Also, we have hardwood floors in the kitchen and there had been an old leak that ruined the floorboards so those need to be replaced. But if we turn the fridge off, it’s gonna dump water down on that place it rotted out again. As soon as we can get the repair of the floor scheduled, we will call and get the refrigerator repair scheduled as well. Then we'll be able to do the repair while it’s pulled out.

People should also be aware that American Home Shield will do anything to repair an appliance rather than replace it. Some of my appliances are now dates from when this house was built in 1994. They are getting very old and at some point, we’re replacing them. But I’ve never had anything but repairs authorized and I’m wondering if AHS will do it if we really need to have something replaced. Nonetheless, the warranty is a good service and it's been very valuable to us. I’m happy to pay for the service as we use it.

We have a heat pump outside, an electric furnace and an AC unit in the garage. There was a problem that started as the heat pump was not blowing warm air in January or February when it was pretty cold. We live in Washington State and it was 30 degrees outside. I turned the heat on and I was sitting by one of the vents in our living room and after 10 or 15 minutes, I could feel the exhaust right next to the vent and it was pretty cold blowing through.

At the time, we were new in our house so I initially thought it was a problem with our thermostat setting. I was trying to work the problem out with our Honeywell thermostat and it seemed that everything was configured right. Eventually, I went to American Home Shield and submitted a claim online. I got a call from the technician within a day or so to schedule an appointment. It kinda got taken care of at the time.

More recently, I had someone out to do a diagnostic on the cooling and heating system to see if there was anything wrong with it in preparation for the weather getting warmer. We are now living about three hours away and I was going to be renting the place to a tenant. I wanted to make sure that everything was working properly before we got tenants in there. The technician looked it over and did a bunch of tests. Everything seemed to be operating properly for when we would try to have the system blow hot air and then when we were trying to have it blow cool air. The technician had his assistant with a thermometer by one of the air vents and he temperatures were correctly in the range that they were looking for, for hot and cold.

Back then, the only issue that the technician saw was that the system was a bit low on refrigerants. He said that he would keep an eye on the unit and it seemed to be operating fine. We've been using the system when we're in the house to keep the temperature within range and the new tenants haven't said that there were any issues with the system. Overall, I'm happy with the way it all worked out.

It's been very simple and super easy filing a claim. My husband submits it online and we normally get someone to contact us really quick. If we've had any issues, they had been resolved fairly quick. When we had somebody come out to check out the AC, the technician did not get the job done in a timely manner. He came and assessed the issue one day but he couldn't come back the same day to fix it. And I kept having to leave work to come home because he couldn't do it by himself. He really wasn't in any condition to be looking in the attic. He couldn't get around very well. He was very nice and helpful though. My husband ended up calling and requesting someone else to come and do it. The same guy showed up with someone else to help him, and they got it done within five minutes. So it got resolved but it took a little more work.

The other people who came out to service the AC unit had to come out a few times as well. My husband noticed some additional issues that should have been caught when the person came out. He requested that the person who came to service the blower motor not come out. Another person came up from the same company. We had that resolved quickly and they did a really good job.

We've only been with American Home Shield for about two and a half months, and the rest of our experiences have been very positive. We had a plumber come in to fix the pipe once and he was very attentive and helpful. He was excellent as far as helping out with additional issues that we had. He answered some questions I had regarding issues that didn't involve the reason why he came out. And he caught a gas leak that I had been smelling. It was so faint that nobody else in the house could smell it but he actually noticed it and we were able to get CenterPoint off to come and fix it. That was a very good experience.

I’m a little bit older, so I go by the theory that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so when this guy took the extra little bit of time to clean and check some other things, we haven’t had to call again and we haven’t had any more problems. AHS has good value for the money.

I’ve had American Home Shield for 18 years and they have always done a good job for me. They always respond quickly and I appreciate that. I filed a claim with them for my air-conditioning's compressor on the phone. It took a few times to get the problem fixed and it was a long process. They had to order a compressor and put it in and then they had to come back a couple of times to adjust the Freon. We had to leave home two weeks in a row. We had no air and my husband has a heart condition and had a stroke so he can’t be in heat. I've had different technicians throughout the process but they were all really nice and professional. The air-conditioning has been working well since they were able to fix it.

We had two calls with American Home Shield so far and one of them was almost a nightmare. I put in the call on December 18th to correct a refrigerator. And it didn't get fixed until March 18th. The technician was fine but they couldn't get the parts lined up. I called Home Shield, and I was on hold for 50 minutes plus every time I try to call them, it was another 50 minutes. That's on top of paying the $75 copay. The home office of Home Shield is not working and there's something wrong with the way the customer service system is set up. But the technician was competent, the parts eventually came and it took him minutes to put them in. So everything was fine.

For the second claim, I learned the process a little bit better. I went on the web, asked for help with my stove, then they lined up a technician, and they brought the parts with them. And within five minutes, we were done. So the second experience was excellent, but the first experience was not. Home Shield has a relatively simple online system. But they should fix their phone system, add more customer service representatives, and have them be more helpful and polite. And then continue on with monitoring all of the feedback, and don't blame everything on the local technician.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for our AC that was not working. It was not getting cold and there was a leak upstairs in the attic and then, there’s also a leak now on the outside unit. The people who came to our house told us that it was one thing and then they have to come back and fix that part. After they were done, it's been working but not a 100%. And the whole thing could be replaced, but they kept on patching it. So, they almost replaced everything without replacing the whole unit.

And with that, they’re also putting pressure on my other unit. There are two units and we’ve been using the upstairs unit. And the downstairs unit is the one we've been having issues with, which is actually the bigger unit. So the little unit is functioning for up and down, so we’ve closed doors that we don’t need so it’d have AC. Right now, the bigger unit is still not working. They came out on Monday and they supposedly pressurized it and then put 250 pounds of pressure and then came back yesterday. And I’m still waiting for somebody to contact me now about the unit right now.

Water leaked from our bathtub upstairs into our kitchen ceiling and there was water damage. I submitted the claim online and American Home Shield's site was very user-friendly. The contractors were also all great but the quality was bad. Also, the warranty seemed most likely to cover certain things but then they denied it. That happened to a couple of different things and they ended up being out-of-pocket expenses. One of them we still haven't fixed too. Our air conditioner doesn't work right and even though it said that they'd fix it, they ended up not agreeing to do anything for the AC. The home warranty was nice to have as a perk of buying the house but it is something we wouldn't pay for on our own.

My Central AC broke in the summer in Central Texas. I called AHS and was told someone would call me within 24 hours. At hour 23 and a house at 90+ degrees, I called them back. I was put on hold several times and then finally told it would be 2 more days before a technician could come out. (Not sure when someone would have called me to tell me that had I not called them.) After a few words with the rude customer service woman, I was given "Outside Authorization" to be able to call a repairman on my own, however, that also meant I'd have to pay out of my own pocket and then be reimbursed.

I was able to get someone out the SAME day. When I called back to get the email address to send the copy of my receipt, I was informed that the ONLY way I can be reimbursed is if I send through the US post office to a PO Box. What?!? This is 2018, why would it have to be "snail" mailed and the more efficient electronic mail not used??? I can only assume that it is a stalling tactic to delay payment on their part. In my opinion, this is VERY poor customer service. This may be very draining financially to some people.

I'd also like to add that they employ many foreigners with difficult to understand accents, however, they were VERY polite. The one American woman I spoke with was incredibly rude. I really wish I had her name as I'd put her on blast here as well. I can only hope that this company listens in on their customer service call center.

When we had our pool opened this year, the company had all the chemicals in the pool, then went to turn on the pump and it was broken. Needless to say we needed a pump immediately, so they took care of it. The same day we put a claim into AHS. Four days later they had not assigned a contractor and we called to explain what happened. They immediately cancelled the claim and basically said, "Sorry about your luck, but you didn't follow procedure." I was told to contact claims review via email, days later I received a denial letter.

Since 5/31/18 I have been trying to speak to a supervisor, but they are never available and don't return messages. Today I did their live chat and was told sorry, but they don't reverse decisions and they will not put me in touch with anyone in the company with authority to make decisions. In order to make it up to me, they offered to waive my next claim copay. I said no thank you, I want to speak to someone higher up and was again denied. Sadly this is typical for their customer service department. Very poor service and you can never speak to anyone in charge.

I put in a claim for the garage opener on my computer and American Home Shield's website was very good. It didn’t specifically have the garage opener and they weren't sure if it was the actual door or the opener when the company called. But they got it and a contractor came out. They had to order a part and then, the part came in and they came and fixed it.

Getting it repaired took a couple of weeks. The issue wasn’t with American Home Shield, it was with the Solinsky, the company that was contracted to do the job. The tech was so busy he had to call and reschedule twice. I was not sure what was going on. And usually, when they schedule you, they give you a time block. I have a little one that I have to pick up in school but I had to stay home all day and I had someone to pick the kids up. I was home from 8:00 and they finally showed up at 4:00. If it was a two or four-hour block, it would have been okay. But you can't put a time to repairs which I understand. Other than that, the garage door has been working great. We have used it a bit.

One thing though is the price went up. We have two properties and each property has American Home Shield. But they increased our prices and I didn’t even get a letter. I just saw in my statement and I went back and tracked it about three months back. I was being charged 90 and I was wondering why I didn’t get a letter about an increment. But I've told a lot of people to get AHS because it's a good thing to have especially if you have big repairs to make and a lot of money to pay upfront.

I put chips in the garbage disposal and it clogged. It's an older house and it was remodeled, so I guess everything wasn’t great when it was done. So, American Home Shield had to come and snake it. Once I submitted the claim to AHS online, they emailed me back within 24 hours to let me know who will be coming and that the company will be getting in touch with me within 24 hours, and they did. It was a fast turnaround. I really like K & S. When they said they were gonna come, they'd come out on time and they'd generally fix the problem. And they were very knowledgeable. There was one contractor though that I didn’t like, but if you ask for certain people that you prefer not to have, then AHS won't call them into your house.

We've been with American Home Shield for two years now. We chose to renew with American Home Shield because we knew that they would send someone out on a timely manner and we never even looked at anyone else. $60 a month is not that much. If something happens, we know that we can always call because we have AHS. However, there are some things that they don’t cover. If the plumber has to go on top of the house, of course they don’t pay for that, we have to. There are some things that we have to pay fully out of pocket. It could be better covered though because I have heard of another company that once you pay, all of that is covered. So, AHS could offer a bit better benefits, but I'm not displeased with them.

The first time I put in a claim online, I did it over my iPad and then I got an email saying who was going to show up. The only thing I hate is that it sometimes takes a long time for someone to come out. That's not all the time though, and it depends on what the service is. It's mainly air conditioning and heating when it's hot and it's a bad time not to have them come. Other than that, sometimes you also have to call back to get action from some of the people that they dispatch. The company that was first dispatched for our AC wanted to wait about five days to come out. But it was hot so we requested that American Home Shield send somebody else, which they did. That contractor got the job done quickly and the unit has been going fine since then.

We purchased a house and had our water test and it was extremely high. So we had it put in a system. I bought from Kinetico an Arsenic filter that takes care of our kitchen sink and our ice maker. The company is a good brand. They did a water test after I had originally done it. And then they came out, and they did the wrong water test to make sure that my water test was correct.

I didn't wanna get a whole house system as I didn’t feel I needed it. I wanted to just get a point-of-use system, and they offered both and I said I only needed the point-of-use system. The installation team was great. I worked with them for years because they are one of the companies in our area that offers this service. And I went with them because of their reputation. They were timely and honest. They provided the service that they said they were gonna provide.

We recently purchased a home and in the process of getting acquainted with it, we found plumbing leaks. The folks on the phone at American Home Shield were fantastic. They were very thorough and they followed the process. I could tell that there was a process that they were following and it helped. However, the first contractor that they sent out was lousy, had some questionable practices, and did not listen to our concerns. They didn’t address areas that were pointed out, and didn’t perform work in an appropriate manner. But the second contractor that was sent out went above and beyond and did a very thorough job. The plumbing is 100% fixed. I look forward to working with American Home Shield again when I have the need.

My first experience has been very unpleasant and disappointing. My air conditioner was not working at the onset of 90 and above temps in Louisville Kentucky. Requested service online, paid the $100 trade fee and a company was dispatched to my home. When the service guy arrived, he did not even come into my house to check anything because when I told him my unit was on my roof, he said he needed a ladder and would return. He never did come back and in the meantime another company was assigned and they too were cancelled because they did not have a 40 foot ladder. A third company also was assigned and they told me they did not service my area. They were 1 hour and half from me and they also did not have a ladder. This went on for a week or so and finally out of frustration, I call AHS which by the way you stay on the phone waiting for assistance at least 25-30 minutes.

I was finally given authorization to seek my own vendor after I had to write down all the do's and dont's that I had to follow and credentials they had to have. I finally contacted a company that had the ability and who were familiar with the hvac units in my area being on the roof. I had to wait a week and half for them to come and when the time came for them to come, they told me they didn't deal with home warranties. Needless to say, I did not care anymore about a warranty being used and I paid for my repair out of my pocket. I am highly disappointed in American Home Shield not being able to dispatch a company with capabilities of handling such repairs as mine. I paid $100 just to find out that in the future, any ac problems that I encounter, will be my sole responsibility as long as I am living in the condominium that I now reside in.
