My washer was broken. It was really loud and it sounded like a jet was taking off. I filed my claim with American Home Shield online and I didn’t have any issues. The contractor that they sent was efficient and was on top of things. Having a warranty on properties is extremely valuable. Major stuff break and AHS comes up pretty quickly to send someone to fix it. AHS provides peace of mind and I recommend them highly.

We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the refrigerator that doesn't work and they sent out a technician. The technician was very timely, nice, and professional. He said that the fridge is old, not cooling and almost beyond repair. It was not gonna get any better so they won't be doing anything about it. He also said that he would submit the claim to American Home Shield and then I should call them to find out what they're gonna do. So I requested that American Home Shield send me the information in writing, which they never did. Then they emailed me that they closed it out. They never got back to me and the refrigerator still doesn’t work. So therefore, I'm responsible for the refrigerator myself.

American Home Shield sometimes needs to get back to their clients. In one case, I had to call two or three times then finally, the lady said, “You know what, ma'am? I'm just gonna take care of you. I'm gonna come tomorrow. I'm gonna make sure somebody looks at this and takes care of it.” So, they're good in signing you up, but their follow-through needs improvement. You might wanna think twice if you have an older house and you are considering them. But if you got a new house, then go for it.

We made a claim with American Home Shield for appliances, and my wife needed to call them a couple of times. She said the representatives were very professional and helpful, but her one complaint about calling is the hold time, which is probably because they don’t have the staff to handle the number of phone calls coming in, and they prefer that you do the communication via email. The technicians who came were excellent and everything went well. It took a while for parts to come in but it wasn’t American Home Shield’s fault. And everything has been working great. We'd recommend them. I've had American Home Shield in almost every place that I've lived, and I've been in a few places. And we have had an experience with other home warranty companies where because something was old and they couldn’t find parts for it, they didn’t replace it. They did nothing.

There was something wrong with my AC and I needed someone to come out. I called American Home Shield and they were very knowledgeable and friendly. In a couple of days, a tech came out. He was nice but he saw that I had a pitbull and he wasn't happy. He made me lock the dog up even though nothing happened. I almost wanted him out of my house. He was able to fix the issue though and everything was fine after that.

I submitted an online claim with American Home Shield when the washing machine went out and it was super easy. However, my wife wasn't too happy with the contractor. She felt that he was super upset when he came in. Also, the repair has not been done so I don't have clean laundry. The contractor said it would take two weeks for the part to come in. Other than that particular contractor, I absolutely love American Home Shield. I had another call that happened prior to that and it worked out wonderfully. My experiences were super beneficial and convenient. I’ve been telling everybody about them.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for my air conditioning. The process was easy. The techs came and fixed my AC and the service they have provided was very good. The AC is going good now but the only thing is the thermostat is not up to par and they told me that that’s gonna be a separate claim. I have to pay $75 again. Also, my freezer went out. I wasn't able to file a claim for it because when the techs came by two and a half months ago, they told me that it was only 60 days warranty and it has already expired. I thought it was three times that you can call them for the same problem. It’s usually three times on the same payment with the other company that I had so I will probably be changing in a couple of months.

There was a problem with my air conditioning. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. Most of the time their site is pretty good but because they bought another company out and when I search from that, it’s hard to pull the information out. AHS needs to think about how they transfer the customer or refer them to the new website. Also, every time I call, the waiting time is so long that’s why I don’t call anymore. Sometimes, it’s 30 minutes and nobody answers. The online process is faster than calling in. Another thing is that the repairer that AHS was using overcharged me more than 50% of the price. I already recommended AHS to my son and he bought it but I reminded him to double check. AHS needs to be careful with their contractors and AHS needs to think about how a customer works to make their company service cost less or be more efficient.

I have three companies who came to my home to fix things. One was a plumbing company, one was an electric company, and the other one was for the air conditioning system. The most recent one was for the electric claim and the guy fixed what we asked for. The guy who came for the air conditioning system did a good job as well. But the plumbing guy came twice and still have not fixed the whole thing. The garbage disposal was broken and the guy needed to replace it. The other part of the work was the faucet which was not performing well. It had some parts that was not exactly broken but were not functioning. He tried to replace them but since that faucet brand has life warranty, he tried to get some parts. Home Depot sent the parts which were not the same as the faucet that I have, so he couldn't finish the work.

It's been a month and the faucet still doesn't perform well. I was waiting for the contractor to come back but he didn't. Home Depot was getting mad on the contractor too because the contractor was saying Home Depot should provide me the right faucet part but there was no reference on the faucet that could tell us what kind of faucet it is. When I purchased the house, the faucet was there. So, there is no document, receipt, or anything that indicates if that faucet was purchased at Home Depot. So then, why should Home Depot provide parts if we didn't purchase the faucet there? Then in the end, I still need to install the faucet. But then, Home Depot called me and allowed me to buy a new faucet with a 50% discount.

I didn't purchase the faucet yet, and didn't call Home Shield to come back and fix the whole thing. It's still pending, which should upset me, because if we have the insurance, AHS should change the whole faucet right away. I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield. There are better companies out there that could do the work better.

On June 8th, I had a vendor come out and look at our air conditioning unit and he deemed that it needed to be replaced. A few weeks went by and I called him to see what the status was. I spoke to a woman in his office. Her name was Lisa and she said that they're waiting for the paperwork from American Home Shield. She also told me that it takes a long time but he’s on it.

Another week went by and I called again and she was very rude and obnoxious, and pretty much dismissed me. So then, another week went by and I called again and I got their voicemail and the voicemail said to leave a message. But when you went to leave a message, the mailbox was full. This went on for several days. And we were in the midst of a heat wave, the hottest heat wave that had hit New Jersey in decades. So, I called American Home Shield. The gentleman from that company called her. She was very rude to him as well, which, he said that he understands how I felt because she was not any more pleasant to him.

Finally, on July 8th, I texted the woman and I explained that I have been trying to reach her now for days and that if she doesn't return my call, then I will call American Home Shield. Within minutes, I got a response from her asking if I was trying to threaten her. Finally, they came, they installed the unit, and the day they left, I went downstairs to take a look to see what they had done and it was leaking from a connection and it was the water that the unit produces as condensation that used to drip into the sump pump well. And it was dripping from the unit and underneath the unit. I called and they came back the next week to fix that connector, but didn’t do anything about the leak. And again, every time I would call, I would get that same voicemail saying the mailbox is full. And I can’t leave a message.

I contacted American Home Shield again and after a couple of weeks of speaking to probably a dozen people from American Home Shield, I said that I don’t want those people coming back anymore because I don’t wanna do business with them. They’re irresponsible. They’re rude. As for AHS, after having to speak to about a dozen different people to get someone out here and a lot of promises that they were gonna take care of it, they just didn't.

It’s 108 degrees here in Las Vegas, and my AC wouldn’t give me any heat or air conditioning at all. The first time Air One came out, they replaced some sort of valve and then less than a month later, the same exact thing happened. On Saturday at noon, when I called, Air One called me right back but they couldn’t get us until Wednesday. And I said, “You realize it’s 108 degrees here and I have three dogs.” The rep goes, “That’s the soonest we can do.” I had to call my own air conditioning guy and pay for $1,700 worth of stuff, and the guy came out the very next morning. I’ve submitted an email to American Home Shield to see what they will pay me back, but I’m sure they’ll pay me $2.50 so I’m not expecting anything.

I also had to use AHS before we actually moved in because there was water damage. My refrigerator, where it’s hooked up, started leaking all over into my brand-new kitchen floor. I called Home Shield and they were like, “We can’t sent anybody out for a couple of days.” So once again, I had to call my own plumber for an emergency shut-off and pay for that. AHS literally paid me back $45, so I’m not real thrilled with them. We’ve only owned this house since April so it's very new service. This is our third time having to use them since April and they haven’t done me any good. They're not worth a dime. I didn't pay for this because we bought the house used and in Nevada, but I had to pay for the same thing for my other house that I sold, so I hope they haven’t had any issues.

I’ve been with AHS for 16 years now and sometimes they do stuff over and over just to try to keep us from getting something fixed the right way or to keep having us pay for something. One of our AC units upstairs had gotten to 87 degrees and my wife filed a claim for it. A tech came in about 48 hours and checked it, but they had to come out about three times. The latest thing that we're dealing with is a leak in one of the water heaters and the contractor said that we've been very fortunate that the heaters haven't busted. Now we are waiting for the water heater to come in to get installed. While we're waiting to get them replaced though, a different plumber called us to come and check on something but we already know that somebody will come to take a look at it, so there was confusion. American Home Shield is good because they always get our stuff done, but they also need to do a better job.

I recently made a claim with American Home Shield for a stove, a microwave and a refrigerator. I did it over the phone at the same time. The contractor who came to my home was very awesome and efficient. Also, he was fast and everything that I wanted in somebody who comes in to fix my stuff. He came at a different time and fixed each appliance in one visit. The last time he had to order parts but he was quick in getting the parts in and came in immediately after. We used to request Sears since everything is Kenmore but we waited a week before they would come again to fix the appliance when they got the part. Afterward, they had to come back after a month because it went out again so I would prefer having this serviceman come over everybody else. Since the repair all three appliances have been working perfectly and I have recommended American Home Shield to some people.

This is the second claim that AHS is denying because of "my fault". First plumbing pipe vibration noise was deemed to be by missing straps by the "plumbing company" that probably gets big bonuses for writing bogus reports for the warranty companies to deny claims. How come my pipes were strapped for 10 years and then all of a sudden are now missing them??? Now my washer. "Appliance repair company" reported it is broken because of overload. My wife has been doing laundry for over 20 years. In case of an overload - clothes usually soak with water. Our case - it was decided conveniently for AHS that it is due to overload with no such a proof. And every visit cost me $100 each. This business model will really work well for types of companies like AHS and their approved contractors. Nice way to rip people off. My hat is off to you.

I was assigned Air Dynasty A/C to check and fix my HVAC by American Home Shield. On July 20, a guy named Rony came to check and told me I need to replaced my leaking evaporator coil for both downstairs and upstairs, and the AHS would cover the labor and part. Since the coil of downstairs unit was just replaced in May 2017 and not supposed to be fail so rapidly, I asked and Rony told me "unfortunately it was defective". Then he wrote down which part need to be replaced and how much I need to pay. For the downstairs unit which adopted R410 refrigerant, he told me it is a new unit and only need to be replaced the coil which is covered by AHS. For the upstairs unit which adopted R22 refrigerant, I need to replace some switch and upgrade which will cost me from $1,200-$1,500.

For making sure, I asked again if I need to do any upgrade or add switch for the D/S R410 unit, he said no. If need evidence, he wrote everything down for me and all the talk has been recorded by my camera on the wall beside the condensers. After he report to AHS, I was told I must pay $1,485 for the downstairs unit, except $300 for refrigerant, the other fraudulent and ridiculous expenses are Emergency drain pan, access door, hanging kit, etc. When I replaced my coil with another contractor of AHS last summer, I only need to pay the refrigerant refill. Now after a summer, to fix the same problem for the same unit, I have to pay more $1,185 for some deceptive expense. I kept all the repair record and invoice for replacing evaporator coil in May 2017 which is only need me pay for refrigerant, and now this contractor is trying to steal money from me on the same problem, and I definitely won't let it happen.

Updated on 08/01/2018: AHS firstly send dishonest and disrespectful contractor who tried to charge me more than $1,000 for code upgrade when my AC coil leaked. After I refused this contractor's proposal and asked for repairing my AC by myself, AHS offered me $300 for the labor and part of coil replacement! How ridiculous it is! Can anyone believe they can replace a coil at cost of $300 in United States?

According to their policy of covering $10 of Freon, I need 10 lbs Freon which is already worth $100 reimbursement. AHS told me to accept their cash, or use their own contractor who charged me a thousand of unnecessary expense. This is AHS' trick that just pushing their customer either paid a thousand out of pocket or take their ridiculously low cash in lieu! I can accept neither of them! I will find a reputable and reliable contractor to fix my AC and ask for the fairly reimbursement! If this is the way that AHS treated their customer, then I have to file a lawsuit in small claim court.

I was required to use American Home Shield due to a "seller paid" home warranty. Within two weeks of purchasing the home, the A/C unit's compressor broke, which resulted going through AHS for the repair. Keep in mind that this is June in Texas where we are experiencing record high temps and my wife is disabled following a massive stroke. Apparently a new compressor was ordered and shipped, but never arrived. AHS would not order a new compressor until the original unit was located.

Bottom line, after 40 DAYS, the repair was completed. Not only that, but I had to pay $200 out of pocket for materials not covered by the warranty. You would think after this ridiculous experience that AHS would have picked up that minimal cost in order to save some face. AHS was for the most part non-responsive to requests for updates during the process and needless to say, exhibited a lack of compassion that was borderline criminal. I urge anyone considering an AHS home warranty to STAY AWAY!!

Deceitful Agent Resulted in over $5000 of out of pocket payments: Last Tuesday I called AHS to let them know that my A/C had a leak in it and told them that I would only allow a service tech to come if they fixed the leak and not just put in Freon. The agent said that Freon would only be paid at $10 a pound. I reiterated that I would require them to tell the service company that there was a leak and that I would expect it to be fixed as I had already had another company diagnose the issue. They again said they would pay $10 a pound for Freon. I asked them to confirm my coverage in case I needed a new unit, they told me $1500.

At that point I asked to cancel my account, since it would have cost me more to replace the unit with AHS than if I replaced it using newacunit.com. And since my unit wasn't cooling and it was 107 I went ahead and bought a new unit and had it installed last Thursday. On Saturday the retention department called asking why I wanted to cancel. They told me I had been given wrong information, that if the service company had come out and filled the Freon (which I would have had to pay for $125 service fee and $500 of Freon), then a week later it had leaked it all, they would have paid me back.

The reason why the company that diagnosed the issue did not put Freon into it was that in good conscience they could not allow the Freon with Chlorine to escape into the air. Also, if a new unit was needed they would have paid 100% of the cost. I told them that if I had been provided that information I would have allowed the service company to have come out. The lady in retentions told me she would have the initial call pulled so that they could verify what I was told and try get authorizations to help resolve this and I would get a call Monday. It is Wednesday and I still haven't got a response. I have so far been on hold without speaking to anyone for 15 minutes. This is unacceptable service.

I called American Home Shield (AHS) on 7 July regarding our air conditioner that wasn't working. I was given a case number, and was told the contractor would call within 48 hours with an appointment. On 9 July, I called AHS because the contractor had not called to set an appointment. I also informed the service rep that the lack of air conditioned air in the house was affecting my 80 year old mother's breathing, so the rep made the case an 'expedited' case due to health issues. Later on in the late afternoon, the contractor calls to set an appointment. The soonest they can come out is 12 July.

On 12 July, the contractor comes at about 9:00 am, checks the air conditioning unit, and after checking the evaporator coil, decides that because the system is mismatched, the entire unit needed to be replaced. I informed him that approximately 3 years ago, another contractor that AHS sent out, had installed a new 3 ton condenser, even though the evaporator coil was a 5 ton unit, keeping the system mismatched. The contractor stated that he would get the information, and the photos of the frozen over evaporator coil to AHS immediately.

On 13 July, I called to find out the status of our case, and the service rep stated that the contractor hadn't sent the information in yet. I called on every business day from that day on, until 23 July, and the answer was still the same... The contractor had not sent in the pricing information yet. In all of that time, none of the personnel at AHS made any effort, other than a quick phone call, to obtain that information from the contractor, even though this was in the AHS computer system as an 'expedited case'. During the phone call on 23 July, it was decided that it was best that another contractor was used to actually expedite our case. Meanwhile, we're having a high number of days where the temperature outside is in excess of 100 degrees, and my mother is suffering. In order for my mother to be able to breathe comfortably, I had to increase the amount of oxygen she was getting, and I also informed the personnel I spoke to of this.

On 24 July, the second contractor AHS found came out much later than the actual time that they were supposed to be out. I informed the contractor of what the first contractor had done, which he really didn't want to hear. He looked at the blower unit, then told me to turn on the unit. I did so, and we went outside to the condenser unit. The contractor hooked up an instrument, and explained the reading to his helper, which was obviously in training. We went back to the blower/evaporator unit, at which time I noticed a burning odor. The contractor looks carefully this time, and notices that the capacitor was missing. He went to his vehicle, got a capacitor, but the motor was now burnt. It would appear that the first contractor took the capacitor out, and the second contractor clearly failed to look the unit over well, before having me turn it on.

We are now well into the third week without a functioning air conditioner, with the extra problem of the burnt blower motor which must now be replaced. Couple that with a host of personnel at AHS that have clearly shown us that they could care less about us, except when it comes to them receiving their monthly fee for providing us with a total lack of service. I couldn't recommend AHS to my worst enemy.

Everything that is promised, stated, or advertised is a complete lie and your company should be sued, bankrupt, and honestly its owners should face legal action.

My family purchased your two year new homeowner plan in January. We paid our contract fee in three monthly installments to total $981. On June 21st our Air Conditioning stopped working and we felt reassured because we had invested in your so called warranty plan. I immediately picked up the phone and put in a service request. I was told that a local contractor would call me within 24 hours and I paid my service fee of $106. 4 days later I received a call from DMC Di Dolce Mechanical Contractors, LLC. They scheduled a service visit for June 28th, now a week after the issue occurred.

A young technician came out and couldn't figure out the problem after a few called to his, "Uncle," for assistance, he determined that the entire unit was faulty and he could give me a "deal," if I paid him $3,200, didn't go forward with American Home Shield, and he would install it within 3 days. The other option was he could attempt to order a new circuit/control board for the furnace and told me it could take 1-2 weeks for the part to come in. I denied his "deal," and decided to stick with American Home Shield and go through the process of getting the new circuit board that would be covered under our warranty. Two weeks go by and I could not get a straight answer from DMC.

I would call and he would say he was busy and would call me back, but never did. I would text and inquire about the part and its arrival and he would respond that he would check on its status, but no update from him after that. After the 2 weeks ordering time has passed (now at 3 weeks with no AC in July) I called American Home Shield to ask what is the best plan moving forward? They attempted to reach out to DMC and confirmed that they did not pick up the phone and that they "abandoned," the job. American Home Shield set me up with another local contractor and said they would call to schedule a service visit within 24 hours. Friday July 13th in the evening I get a call from this contractor and they state that they are going on vacation and couldn't doing a service visit until the following week, July 23rd.

This would put us at over a month without AC!!! I denied the week out scheduling and called back American Home Shield on July 16th to discuss other options. They said that the two contractors were the only ones in my area and that they would reach out to a further radius for others. The representative kept me on hold while she made those calls and told me that some hung up the phone once they heard it was American Home Shield, and others blatantly said they didn't want to work for your company. Unreal!

The other option that the representative told me was to do an Outside Authorization. This meant that I can pick a local company to do a service call on my furnace and they would submit the diagnosis to AHS for approval. Simple I thought! I called a local company, that I do not want to state here as they have been nothing but positive and I don't want to associate them with your awful company, and they arrived the next day for diagnostics. Within minutes they found that the problem was a shortage in the circuit board.

They could order a new one and have it within 1-2 days!!! 1-2 days not 1-2 weeks like DMC Contractors. On July 18th they submitted their information to AHS for approval and we tentatively scheduled the repair for July 25th to allow time for AHS to approve. After not hearing from AHS for 2 days I called them up on July 21st and they stated that they haven't received any information from my outside contractor and I needed to call them. I called them and they reconfirmed that they submitted everything on the 18th. On July 23rd I spent a good 3 hours on the phone with AHS trying to figure out why we were not getting the approval. It was simply because the diagnosis, "did not provide enough detail."

I asked what information did they need and they stated the year the furnace was installed so that they can determine if it was under warranty or not. 1999 I responded and confirmed it was not under warranty. That was apparently not good enough so AHS determined that we needed to get a second opinion on the circuit board replacement.

This is the best part! Guess which company AHS sets us up with for a second opinion... DMC Di Dolce Mechanical Contractors!!! The first company that came out, tried to scam us, abandoned the job, and AHS confirmed that we shouldn't use them! Absolutely insane and embarrassing! Even better, from their first service visit they emailed me a invoice that stated the circuit board needed replacement confirming my outside authorized contractor was correct. I emailed this directly to the claims department to show/confirm a second opinion and I still have heard nothing back! I called AHS today July 24th and spoke to a representative who eventually transferred me to the authorization department since she agreed that we just need approval for our outside company to do the work.

After speaking with the authorization department representative they said that we still need a second opinion and that they were going to have contract relations reach out to DMC to see what the issue was. Round and round we go!!! I was supposed to have multiple representative call me back with updates throughout this process with promises that they claimed to help me out and guess how many got back to me? ZERO! Tomorrow is supposed to be the day that the outside company is to replace our circuit board for a total job cost of about $600, but I had to cancel it due to no approval from AHS. So here we sit with no AC in July for 5 weeks with a $1,000 warranty that is good as the Charmin Ultra I wipe my butt with.

All I want is the outside company to finish the job and settle this insane issue, but it seems like that is too hard for you to do. Thank you for nothing American Home Shield. I am reporting you to Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau, and sharing this post on all social media platforms. After checking out your social media pages and reviews it's quite obvious and apparent that you are a trash company as you have 1 star (probably because 0 wasn't available) out of 5 and 1000s of terrible reviews. I hope you all end up penniless and in prison for how you are ripping off hardworking individuals and families. A very heated customer (pun intended).

We just purchased our home and requested that the sellers purchase a home warranty. We were extremely dissatisfied when we found out the warranty was with American Home Shield, we had a previous warranty with them on our last house and it was nothing but problems. It took them 14 days to approve and get the parts to fix our hot water heater, so yes we went 14 days without hot water.

Our AC unit blower fan went out and in 100+ degree heat it took them almost a week to have someone come out and do the repairs. With my new property I have been on hold. Hung up on for almost two hours trying to speak with someone to get my ac blower repaired today. It is currently 106. Will continue to be in the triple digits. There is a local company that has the parts and can do the work today but do you think I could get approval. I just got hung up again. Guess I'm paying for a $190 for a service call and $560 for a new blower motor for my ac unit because I can't even speak to someone about the issue. Looking into taking American Home Shield to Small claims court for this one.

There was no air flow coming through the vents of my air conditioner. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the process was easy. The first contractor that was supposed to work on the repair didn’t call and didn’t show up for his appointment. Then the second contractor they put me in contact with wasn’t helpful at all. So, I just took care of the problem on my own and logged in another service, and I paid for the repair myself. But according to the contractor AHS won’t pay for anything for my doing that, so I didn’t see any reason to contact them to get my money back. It was frustrating and I now regret purchasing the home warranty.

The guys gave me a two-hour time and they were about 45 minutes late, but they did come and fix it on the same day. And the AC has been running okay, so far. There are situations where you don’t get covered by AHS. But I would recommend them.

I try to call in the morning so I can hear from them in the afternoon and know when they're coming. I had them in my other house as well, so I had them for 20 years up in North Carolina. Recently I had a leak in the bathtub, so I had someone come out. I submitted the claim over the phone and my experience was fine. The contractor that was sent out was very thorough. He checked everything out and found the leak. It had a small pencil eraser and he found out right away what it was.

But I love the company they sent out for my AC claim. They were there on the spot, got it fixed and I did not have a problem since.

I thought I had a Freon problem but the tech from Epic Air came out and said it was a little valve, and so he tightened it and put in a new little tire valve. A day or so, the unit didn't work again. The contractor came out again and said the problem was the heat pump. The main part of the house has a heat pump and it has an air hammer inside then a compressor like the regular air conditioners on the outside. They said it had to be replaced. The air hammer was replaced and within hours, my whole downstairs was soaking wet. I have expensive carpet down there so I turned off the system and stopped as much water as I possibly could in there, in the storage closet and the furnace room. The contractor said that the pump was too level that it didn't have enough of a float to drain. He put in a pump and a little thing on the floor next to it so that if any water got there, it would cut the system off.

I have three air conditioning systems, one in my lower level and the second system in my bedroom. It’s the big system that covers the great room, the kitchen, two bedrooms and a bath in the main part of the house. I could go to the main part of the house but it's just too hot. I’ve been without air for weeks now and the techs are coming out Friday and they’re gonna install the unit on the outside. It has been pretty miserable with this issue. It's a combination of errors but the problem is having to wait so long for Epic Air, which said they had to get the approval from American Home Shield. Epic Air is so busy but they seem to be nice people. Overall I've been using American Home Shield since 1972 and I've sold many of their warranties so I like them.

This house has been insured by American Home Shield for as long as we've had the house, which is at least 14 years. We had a house prior to that in another part of Georgia and we had a home warranty with AHS too. And we've always been able to get things taken care of. We have lived out of the country and been dealing through American Home Shield. Submitting a claim has always been a fairly easy process so we've stayed with them. I used to have to call more to file claims because we were renting out and I wanted to pay the service fee ahead of time so that our renters wouldn't have to. But American Home Shield has fixed that and now, I can pay online. I file claims online more now and it's super easy. I only call if there's something specific going on.

American Home Shield also lets me pick the contractor and the people who built our house are on their list so we've been able to have the people who actually put systems come and work on our house. But there was one company I asked for and we had a terrible experience. They said that my dishwasher was destroyed by roaches, which was weird because even though we hadn't been living in the house, we kept an exterminator. I called the exterminator and had them look at it, and there was no bug evidence. The contractor just didn't wanna fix it. I told AHS that I don't want that company to come to our house again and they said okay. So I like their system. They’ve been flexible with me.

American Home Shield let me have another company come and look at the dishwasher for no charge, and they're repairing the dishwasher now. Overall, we've had a good experience with American Home Shield so when my neighbor purchased a home warranty, I got her to go with AHS as well. I had another friend who had a different home warranty and I also had her switch to AHS. There are things that aren’t covered but we've been lucky to be able to have things covered.

If something were to happen and they didn't show up on time, you get a phone call. And it's very easy in our rental properties to let one of the kids know that, 'cause we rent to VCU students. We just let the people know who they will be dealing with at the house and let the techs that are coming know who to ask for and which kid is gonna be there, and we pay for it online.

The contractors that AHS sent out for AC servicing overcharged me on Freon. I called AHS and asked how much the Freon was for the unit and they gave me a different price than what the contractor charged me here. I told AHS about the problem and they said that because the company serviced that the first time, we needed to give them a chance to fix it. And, if I'm dissatisfied with the contractor, I could ask for another one but it'd be another new service fee call because it's a different representative. They have come out three different times since and they still haven't fixed it. The motor was replaced, but within an hour the unit was freezing back up again. AHS put us on high-priority and they failed to come out on that urgent call.

I got back on the phone with AHS and told them that I was fed up with Just One Call. Then I was told that this new company was gonna come out and then if I didn't hear from someone within four hours to call AHS back. I called AHS and it took two hours to get through that time. Then, I was told that I was going to have to hire someone and pay for them on my own. So, I was not happy and I asked them to talk to a supervisor. And this guy was really good. He told me not to worry and that he would get on my claim personally. He called me back within half an hour with someone to come out.

The new contractor saw that the previous company left at least 1/3 of the coils filthy. He sent a request to AHS for the uncleaned coils to see if it would be okay for him to do. He also went through everything and did some troubleshooting. I’ve been a little pissed because my mother is not breathing well and needs the AC. And right now, the claim is still open. We’re hoping that what he has done will fix it.

The experience we had with my daughter’s dishwasher was the worst in the world. American Home Shield sent one guy but then they let him go and sent a new person. In my original contract, the service fee was supposed to be $75 but then they told me it was $100. We got that over with though and that was fine. But American Home Shield said that even though the dishwasher was a KitchenAid, I would get the Kenmore. I told them I don't care. I said to just please let me get it. I went online and it cost less money than what they were offering me for the buyout. And when I said I wanted the stainless steel, they said it would be an upgrade. But I had looked online and it was not. It was the same price. We also had to wait another two weeks for the dishwasher. The Sears right around the corner from me had it in stock but they told me it didn't matter. I would have to wait for when they get it.

In the interim, I had a problem with a spigot outside. All the other ones around the house were working fine but for some reason, that one wouldn’t turn off no matter what we did. We had to shut the whole thing down and none of the spigots worked until I got somebody here. I submitted the claim over the phone because it’s better for me to talk to and explain. But the girl I spoke to didn’t know what a spigot was. She said that she had to look it up and she had me on the phone for about half an hour then finally she said I was covered. But when the contractor came, he didn't do anything. He went to his truck and he was there for a while, then he said I wasn't covered according to what he was supposed to be doing. But why would the girl send him over here if it was not covered?

Then the heating element in my son's microwave wasn't working and when I called American Home Shield, they said I had a balance of $207. I realized that a microwave was only $100 and that I could replace it myself. So I told them to forget about the microwave but I asked about the $200 charge. The girl took all my information then she understood. She said that I shouldn't have been charged. I was told that it was covered but the guy said I was not covered so why was I being charged $207? Then American Home Shield went down to $100. I just got another bill from them. My husband was a builder but when he died, I needed to get something because I didn't know how to fix things. But I've had a terrible experience with American Home Shield. I’m working 24/7 now that I don’t have my husband and then to have this happen, it really hurts.

We also had an issue with my son's air conditioning and I paid the contractor $1,100 to repair the coil instead of going to American Home Shield. It took American Home Shield over a month to do my daughter's dishwasher and this was heating and air conditioning. My son is completely bedridden and I would never make him wait months in the heat.

I’m to the point where now I’m gonna open my mouth. I put it off the last time because I said it was just a bad experience. I let it go but this time, I've had it. I'm a realtor with Diane Turton and I'm gonna tell her what happened to us. I have to. This happened to me with American Home Shield and as a realtor, it's embarrassing. My livelihood is referrals. 99% of my business are from past clients who recommend me because they know I do a good job. If we recommend people, we want service. All my past customers, who I recommended American Home Shield to, still talk to me but this could have happened to them and they never told me.

Several of the circuits in a couple of bedrooms as well as in the main entry way had gone bad. We turned in a report to American Home Shield and we were fortunate because at the time, we also had a pending claim for our ceiling fan. A company here in Richardson, Texas came to pick it up and was repairing it. And they had an appointment with us to reinstall it on Monday. It was Sunday night that the circuit went out and we turned in the claim. Then we followed up with phone calls and on Monday morning, AHS assigned the electric circuit issue to the same electricians from All American Electrical that were doing the ceiling fan. And they were nice enough to piggy back it on the ceiling fan appointment.

So, we had two separate claims but the techs were able to come out immediately and finish dealing with both issues. Things worked out really well. While they were here to reinstall the repaired ceiling fan, they checked out the circuits. As they worked their way through the house testing from the breaker box on back, they found that a laptop sitting on the dining room table was plugged into an electrical socket in the dining room area and the outlet that it was plugged into had a short in it. They replaced that and everything started working again. So far, everything’s working the way it’s supposed to be.

However, we observed that the electricians that came out that did all the work opened up the circuit breaker boxes on the exterior of the house right with the light meter. And in the process of checking everything out, they pulled the inside plate that covers all the wiring and everything in the breaker box itself. Unfortunately, they left without putting that cover back in place, which left all that wiring and everything exposed. Then, the guy who went out found it because we keep that box locked and he was gonna put the locks back on it. So he put the plate back in place then locked the box up. There are no children around the house but it was a little disconcerting and I wrote a reply to Home Shield about that.

Other than that, AHS has been very responsive. For some reason, we end up turning things in on weekends and we don’t expect any of response from them. But we have to be assigned to somebody and usually the people that the job’s been assigned to contact us within a couple of hours. Also, we don’t have to spend all morning calling our friends and asking them if they know a good technician to work on something. AHS takes care of that then we pay our deductible on our policy and keep on going. The other key to it is they’re pretty good to communicate but we also need to actively pay them and make sure that we’re communicating with the contractor.

They failed to submit their recommendations to American Home Shield for 5 days and would not respond to AHS. So American Home Shield stated they were unable to help until the work order was sent in. We explained it was extremely hot and wanted to requested a different company come out. That is more efficient and American Home Shield states they couldn't until they sent an email to upper management and consumer relations within their company.

It has been 3 weeks and still no resolution other than 'apologizing' and 'understanding' from AHS. They are constantly putting us on hold over and over again for 30 minutes or more than "accidentally" hanging up. We have actually been hung up on 3 separate times. One representative got my phone number and told me she would call me right back, so I waited 2 hours and no return phone call. If the call is dropped no one calls back even though every time I call they confirm my phone number. It is a 110 where we live and is extremely hot at nights. My son has asthma so we can't have the windows open with bad air quality and multiple fires around us and it is causing a health concern. I have been with AHS for 4 years now and I am ready to switch companies! I am very dissatisfied with how they treat their customers.

We bought our home last December 2018. Our first experience with American Home Shield was excellent! We were very happy because the first service called. I had a technician check out the washer, dryer and dishwasher which were all found to be in poor condition. We were ecstatic when American Home Shield replaced all three appliances without dispute. Now for the bad news. Two weeks after moving into our home the air conditioner quit working properly freezing the coils in the Attic and causing part of our ceiling to fall to the floor. We were disappointed to find the damage to our ceiling was not covered. We have had the air conditioning serviced 8 or 10 times in the last 6 months and still are very unhappy because the air conditioning is not efficient

The air conditioning in this house is 28 years old. All the components in the air conditioning unit have failed and been replaced but, still not efficient enough to maintain the cooler temperatures we need. Well temperatures outside are over 90 degrees. All the different technicians that have come out to service our air conditioner have told us the same thing. The AC unit is working to its full capacity but cannot maintain temperatures in the house because it is no longer efficient.

When it is 90 degrees outside the coolest we can get the house inside is 80 degrees. 8 years ago this home had a total weatherization done on it. All the windows have been replaced with vinyl double pane energy efficient Windows, patio doors, and attic insulation has been installed. The air conditioning unit cannot maintain temperature inside the house and our air conditioning bill was over $400 last month. We continue to talk with the people at American Home Shield only to find that there is nothing they will do about it because it works.

We are very upset about the way this whole situation has evolved because my wife is on disability with an issue that causes her to fight for healthy oxygen in her blood. Because of her condition she is not mobile enough to be out of the house all the time and has to lay around just to maintain her energy and oxygen levels. She is stuck in this house at 80 degrees every afternoon because our air conditioning system is old worn-out inefficient and it is costing us too much money.

When I talked to the service reps with American Home Shield they assure us that they have replaced many air conditioning units. I find it hard to believe because all the techs that have been out here have told us that they have never seen this company replace an air conditioner. The technicians would even told us that they're not allowed to write that the air conditioner should be replaced on a work order because they would be fired even though they believe it needs to be replaced.

I am in a state where I don't know what to do because I can't afford the cost of replacing this AC. I have looked at the Better Business Bureau and was shocked to see all of the complaints from people who have had American Home Shield. I am additionally disturbed to see that many of the complaints involved the air conditioning issues similar to what I have encountered.

Here is a comparison... You take your car to the mechanic because it will only go up to 25 mph and your gas mileage is only 5 mpg. American Home Shield will say that's okay because it still runs. My AC runs non-stop and still can't get below 80 inside when it's 90 outside. That's okay because it's running according to American Home Shield. PS, asked to speak to someone with management many times. Never happened.

I requested service for the first time on my garbage disposal. Paid the fee. Disposal randomly started working again, so I cancelled my appointment with the service company and called AHS to get my $75 fee back. It took 6 phone calls and a combined total of just under 2.5 hours to get it back, and I still don’t have it in my bank account. That was just the process I had to go through for someone to tell me they submitted a refund request! So many employees and supervisors that had absolutely no clue what they were doing. Makes me more than hesitant to ever use this warranty service again!

I live in rural MT, and bought a house here almost a year and a half ago. We are the biggest town for about 250 miles, and we have a population of 5,000. When I bought my house, I purchased the Shield Plus home warranty from American Home Shield. Over the last year, I have submitted two different claims, and the experience for both of those has been frustrating. My understanding after talking to a supervisor is that AHS policy is for me to submit a claim, then they find a contractor to service the issue. If they are unable to find a contractor, they are to contact me within 48 hours with another contractor, and then if they are not able to find anyone, they give me authorization to get an outside contractor.

The first time I made a claim, it was two days after I made the claim - a clogged drain in a shower - that I was contacted and told they would find a contractor in my area to fix it. Three days later I called them and found out they were still looking. Eventually I got authorization to get an outside contractor. So I did the legwork, and the reimbursement check from AHS came in on time. The issue ended up being in cement, so I got a check in lieu of repair, and that system worked well.

This last time, I have a leak in the drain pipe behind my washing machine. I made a claim eight days ago. I was told that I would hear back in four hours. I called back four days later and got disconnected twice. I did not hear anything from AHS during this time. Yesterday, I spent an hour and eight minutes on the phone and was verbally given outside authorization and told the email with the confirmation number was on the way. This morning I called back after not getting the email. After being on hold for 29 minutes I was disconnected. I am now back on hold... Everyone is polite, but when AHS cannot use their connections and need to get outside help, there is clearly an issue.

AHS will not cover any water damage that happens while the leak is not being fixed. So, in reality, their slow response is costing me out of pocket money to fix water damage that is not being addressed because of poor communication and an inability to quickly authorize outside contractors in the rural part of the country in which I live. AHS may be great in urban areas, but I would highly discourage anyone in rural areas to use AHS for their home warranty. My experience is that as a company they are just not at all set up to take care of rural customers.

I tried to all of the phone numbers I could find for American Home Shield on my contract or any other place I had a phone number in order to speak to a customer service rep. Each time, about 15 times, my call was disconnected after the robot said they would transfer me to a customer service person. Are there any live persons working at this company or is it all controlled by online activity only? The choices that the robot gave didn't include speaking to a live customer service person, I tried them all. Very disappointed in this. However, when I have needed service, that all has gone well. But don't like not having someone to actually be able to talk to at this company.

My refrigerator felt less cool than normal, so I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) who contacted their repair organization to schedule an appointment. The first company had no openings for 1 week so I called AHS back who contacted another company. This 2nd company scheduled for later in the week, so I moved all of my groceries into a cooler until they arrived. The tech was very knowledgeable and identified a fan motor that had quit. He said their vendor would take up to a week to send a fan, so we made arrangements with coolers and ice for the next week. After two weeks went by, I started calling them daily for an update and was told that the fan was on back order and they couldn't determine when it would be available. Their best guess was another 10 days to two weeks.

I did a quick internet search to find this fan readily available from 3 different sources (GE parts direct, Sears Parts, eBay), so I contacted AHS with the information. They first said there was nothing they could do, because it was back ordered from the vendor, but I reiterated that it was readily available from multiple online sources (for under $100 delivered) - so they asked me to be patient while they investigated and they would call me back with any options available to me.

We threw out all of our groceries, including milk, eggs, cheese and meats. I understand their business model of only using certain vendors for coverage issues, but cannot condone the lack of customer awareness that could lead to health concerns when dealing with refrigerated foods. If a refrigerator can't be fixed within a week, it should be replaced - or obtain parts outside of normal channels. Seriously, in this current day of internet availability, no part should endanger the health of a family in America, when it is readily available at nominal cost.

First if you call their automated system and your inquiry does not fit within their automated parameters and you ask to be transferred to an operator, the system will give you a "transferring your call" message and then hang up on you. I found this out when we called to ask if a specific item was covered in our policy. The only option was to set up a contractor and pay the deductible in advance. I spoke to the contractor the next day to set up service and was told since the problem was technically not a stoppage, they could not come out to do any work. The big problem is trying to get a refund when there was no service provided. I called in to the customer service line around July 12th. The representative I spoke to advised that she would start the refund process and it could take a couple weeks to complete the process.

A callback was made on July 23rd to check on the status of the pending refund. The rep, Frances I believe, advised that the refund had been processed by accounting today. However, it would take up to another three weeks for the refund to reach us, depending on how it was done. The rep could not tell if the refund was done by refunding our card or if a check was sent out. I find this odd considering she's in the billing department. After pushing to get clarification to no avail, I asked to speak to her supervisor. She put up a defense saying the supervisor would only tell me the same thing she was saying. IE: SHE REFUSED TO TRANSFER THE CALL!

At this point, I'm tired of dealing with her. I tell her that if we don't have the money in a week, a call will be made to the Better Business Bureau. All three parties can settle the issue at that time. As a side note, it is amazing that it can take four weeks or longer to issue a refund, yet they can process charges for service in less than 24 hours.

The contractor that came here before to repair my AC refused to come back out again, so AHS sent a different contractor, Thermo, and this is the company that I'm dealing with now. The tech of Thermo said the previous contractor installed the part wrongly and my AC has been leaking Freon, and in the first place the AC should have been replaced. AHS is still in the midst of talking back and forth between the contractor and the agent on what to do. In the meantime, the temperature is now 110 degrees and it was 99 degrees yesterday. I try to stay out as much as I can to stay cool. But I'm 65 years old and it's not very easy trying to stay cool. So, I'm not impressed with AHS right now.

The house we bought is very unique. It was built in 2001 and when they built it, they put in all the appliances. When we bought the place, we knew the appliances and the home are older so there's gotta be some maintenance, which I'm not scared of. We knew that getting a home warranty would probably be in our best interest. American Home Shield was offered through the realtor, and my wife also did a little research, looked at some online reviews and we've been very happy.

Our house has three different living areas, has three different AC units and the AC unit in particular is for the upstairs apartment. We had an issue with that AC. The AC unit is not more than seven or eight years old, but it has been in the part of the house that probably sat baking for a while. It got some issues from not being used for a long period of time. So my wife submitted a claim to American Home Shield online.

Also, the AC had the same issue the previous time that the tech came out so he thought he had it fixed but he came back out anyway. We actually requested the same tech who came out before because my mother and father-in-law live in an apartment right next door underneath the same roof, and that tech really took care of us. But the company said he wasn't available. So we went ahead and arranged for a different tech to come out and around 20 to 25 minutes later, the company called us back and said they moved some things around and the same tech, Jason, can come out. That's the extent of them taking care of us and we were very happy with that.

The tech was very professional, and he got the AC going again in a matter of minutes. He was also on time. He got the little booties he slipped on so he doesn't track dirt and sand into the house as well. Everybody was very happy. I've no complaints at all. Also, my father-in-law is 74 years old. He has owned his own business. He is all about customer service and punctuality. Everything that someone is supposed to be or usually promises to be, he hold them to that standard, and he was very impressed and that says something. I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I typically call American Home Shield to submit claims and their reps are professional. The tech from Patriot Plumbing came out once for the running toilet and it was still continuing to run so he had to come back out again. And then he replaced the faucet in the master bath. He came and did what he needed to do. Plus he was on time and very friendly. And so far the repair seems to be working.

I used my air conditioner last year and turned it off for the fall, winter and spring. And then I turned it on in the summer and it wasn't working. We put in a claim for it and I haven't heard back. I called AHS and they said, "We're trying to get some information from the company that came out and looked at it to see if this was a problem that you had before or if it was a new one." It's been another two weeks since they said they will let me know. There's one other thing we called about, and the way that the rep worded the description made them deny the claim. They also denied my spigot because they said it was overused. But when you can't get a faucet to stop, you're gonna keep turning it and that's why they denied it. So I was dissatisfied and disgusted with that too.

The first technician couldn't repair it so he ordered a part. And then a different technician came back to install the part, but the part was not made for my air conditioning unit. So, he went up, played around up in the attic with the air handler, came down and said that it was all fixed. He left and the AC worked fine for a month. Then one day, I came home and it wasn't working at all. I could tell that the house was at its hottest 'cause we live in Florida. So, AHS dispatched another technician and came out on a Saturday which was awesome. It turned out that the connection with the door on the handler wasn't connecting with the unit properly so it was kicking the circuit breaker off. I turned the circuit breaker back on and it's been working fine since then.

The hot water heater in the house started to leak into the utility room there and American Home Shield had Harvey Contractors come out and the tech did a great job. I really liked them. He had to order some part and he said, “Normally, I take a deposit from you.” I said, “I don’t have the cash in the house,” and he couldn’t take a debit card. I said, “Well, I will go get the cash.” He said, “No, don’t worry about it. Don’t worry about it.” And he ordered it anyway and a couple of days later, they were there and that was good because the whole room was flooded the same morning when I got up.

The installer was professional and was a really nice guy. When I asked him to square the bricks up on the bottom and everything, he said, “Yes, sir. No problem.” But I had to tell him three times not to call me “Sir.” And his boss that came a few days before him was really, really nice too. I would have them back here in a heartbeat. Harvey Contractors did an awesome job.

One thing I'm not really happy about is I had a contractor come out and looked at my air conditioner and he said, “I don’t think that they're gonna cover that because it looks like somebody’s dog peed on the air conditioning condenser unit, the thing that sits outside.” I only have one dog and he only weighs three and a half pounds and there's no way on God’s green earth that he can pee that high.

I've had this warranty with American Home Shield for a long, long time so it's not like I bought this thinking that, “Oh, I'll buy this and then I'll get a new air conditioning system out of it.” They charged me $125 for the contractor to come out and the guy just said, “Well, I'll take pictures and send it into American Home Shield,” and he walked away. They never took any pictures for anything. They didn’t care because it wasn’t gonna benefit them.

And there was another issue. I called AHS for the trash compactor and they took $125 from me and the contractor never came out. Nobody ever called. I got desperate because the sink was backed up. I called my neighbor up and we fixed it ourselves, but I never got a refund of the 125 bucks but I never paid them $125 for the AC guy either because I told them, “Look, I'm not paying this until you send this money back.” And they never send it back, so I never paid.

They called me about eight days later and said, “Oh, we've been trying to contact you.” And I said, “Well, My number hasn’t changed. We already fixed it. The sink backs up and you can't do anything with it until you fix it. So, we took care of it ourselves."

But to me that was a small thing. What bothers me is that air conditioning system because they never send anything in. They never called and said, “Hey! was this resolved?” I don't know what's going on with it. The reason that I called it in is because the house is so humid so I know there's something wrong with it. But overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield. I've called in and I've done the claims online. It was convenient for me to do it online so I do it mostly online nowadays.

When the rusted-out drip pan in my 18-year-old Trane air conditioner began leaking, causing stains on my ceiling, I called AHS and they sent out their local contractor who determined it obviously needed a new drip pan. Neither the local contractor, nor AHS could locate a drip pan for this old Trane, not even from the manufacturer. Trane told AHS they could custom manufacture one, but it would take 38 working days, which is 7 weeks, counting weekends. When I asked AHS’s local contractor about custom making one, they said they could have one fabricated locally in about a week. That was satisfactory for me, but then I was told that AHS would only pay me $380 of the $750 amount that the contractor was charging. By the way, there was no additional freon needed for this repair, so the charge was purely for parts and labor.

I don’t feel AHS honored our contract which says they will do a payout based on what a consumer without this contract would pay after negotiating the best price for such services in your area when “An item is not repairable and a replacement item is no longer available.” The main definition of “available” according to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary is “present or ready for immediate use.” Dictionary.com defines available as “suitable or ready for use; of use or service; at hand.”

I contested this to AHS service rep and was transferred to three different people to explain my point. All of their reps said that “available” meant they could just get the part at some time. That varied definition is not defined in the contract. So, by their definition, even if it had taken a year to get the part, they would be within contract parameters! I had no choice but to agree to pay the difference if I didn’t want to be without air conditioning for practically the entire summer. I can understand a delay in time needed to ship a part, but when there is no part “available” to ship, I feel AHS should reimburse me the total cost of the fabrication. What would AHS have done if Trane wouldn’t fabricate a new drip pan?

    Thanks for your vote!

The technician came on Friday after paying 100$ for service charges and just mentioned that I have a leak but they will not be able to perform the test until Tuesday! In this hot and humid summer how my family with little kids supposed to deal with? It’s Monday and still no signs of anyone calling me up and ensuring that this will be resolved soon. Called and paid for service problem not repaired. My AC is not functioning correctly and I called AHS to have a technician come out. They sent one man out who removed my air filter and said everything was fine. The problem was not fine and removing a vital component is not fixing anything, but only making the problem worse. When I called to have them back out to fix the problem they would not return calls or answer the phone. I called AHS back and they sent a different company out. The technician that arrived did not look at anything as he needed to get into the attic but said it was too hot and that I would need to reschedule a morning appointment. This company never called to reschedule.

I called AHS back and they contacted the technician who in turn told them I needed parts that were not covered by my contract. How would he know what parts I need if he never even looked at the unit? It has been 10 days without working AC and outside temps have been consistently over 100-104 degrees. This is unacceptable and I want my service repaired as they have charged and received payment yet nothing has been done. AHS is sending out crooked companies to my home, charging me for services that are not being performed.

After two weeks with non-working HVAC system. American Home Shield finally sent out a technician that actually looked at my system (The two they sent out prior did nothing and refused to go in the attic to even look at my system). The third technician found the problem and it is with my dampers not allowing proper airflow. After calling the Authorization Department they said I wasn't covered for that under my contract. Then they said I was covered, then they said I wasn't. According to my contract "ALL COMPONENTS and parts" are covered. American Home Shield tried to tell me the dampers didn't have anything to do with an HVAC system and so they would not cover my service. This is in complete breach of contract. They refuse to repair my system and to honor our contract which I paid a $470 annual fee to include such service as well as a $75 service fee.

I want to warn everyone against doing business with this fraudulent company. This is going to cost me an additional $820 out of pocket to have repaired and is under warranty. The technician they sent out told me they have also told him that it is covered then that it wasn't. AHS is lying to consumers as well as to contracted repair technicians. Their business practices need to be investigated for fraud, larceny and breach of contract.

1 star is too much for this review. My AC broke on July 3rd... Today is July 23rd. They still did not fix AC. Horrible customer service, I had to pay $3500 for the compressor because they said they don't cover it. What is the purpose of the warranty when you have to pay even more than it cost... and 3 weeks later they still did not come to fix it. They outsource to contractors that you cannot reach, their mailbox is always full and they don't show up for appointments 5 times now, only promising that they will call, but they never do. Stay away from the company.

Updated on 07/24/2018: I wrote a review yesterday about the horrible service, the company rep replied as if someone sent me email. Nobody sent me email, nobody came to install AC, it is been more than 3 weeks we are without air conditioner. They doing a good job collecting money for the unit, warranty does not cover much of anything. I could be much better without warranty because they don't cover anything. They charge about $3500 for compressor to be replaced. And they still did not install it after more than 3 weeks... when they write response that they sent me email it is not true and I have the option to reply privately not publicly, so I had to take more time to wrote another review because whatever they write in public profile is a lie. Nobody sent me any emails yesterday, nobody came today either again. It is the 6th time we have a no show after we scheduled. Stay away from this company.

At the moment of writing I have been on hold waiting to speak with a supervisor for 33 minutes. AHS sent a contractor to our home to fix our a/c on Saturday 7/21/2018 and the a/c is not fixed. Simple. We just want the service we are paying for because the payments for the service are delivered promptly, we expect the service to be returned in like manner. And I am still on hold approaching 35 minutes.

When I first started logging onto this platform to set up my account I had already been on hold for 23 minutes. No one told me that the call volume is high and anything like that so I could expect the long wait. In addition, after reviewing the contractor receipt, he actually lied about what he discovered and what the problem was. This is frustrating. And still on hold.

Our AC wasn’t cooling, and my husband submitted a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor they sent was really good. He came, went over the attic and he was thinking the issue was something up in the attic and that hopefully it wasn’t something else. It wasn’t the motor. So he tried something first and then he got a gauge out, but I think it was Freon, which was registering too cold of a temperature. So that helped him that it was gonna freeze up. He had a motor in his van and then he put out the motor and put the other motor up. And he took his time and I noticed that it was probably half his work hours. He could have not been on it and let the thing freeze up but he really worked hard. He was very personable and I was very impressed.

He fixed our AC and it's been working since then. I wish it would be cooler. And I’m scared that eventually, it’s gonna go because it’s so old. But, it’s been fine. The only thing is once we made the claim, we had to wait three days, which I didn’t like. In fact, he came the second day and I was so afraid he wasn’t gonna come. He was gonna need a part and it was gonna be another hot night. So I wish it could have been fixed sooner, but it ended up working and we only have one night of terrible heat. I would recommend AHS.

Also, the contractors that I worked with were great and professional. They do what they have to do and then that was it. I have submitted two claims. The first one was a problem with the garage but I learned that wasn’t covered after they came in. The contractor ended up fixing it anyway and I still had to pay the regular fee on top of the fee that AHS charges me. With the AC claim, it was a matter of them replacing a little switch. However, that happened on a Tuesday and I couldn’t get the AC fixed until Friday. Since we live in Texas, it was ridiculous. Also, the bill was $100. But everything has been working good since the repair. I recommended AHS to several people.

However, I reached out to the contractors to get them to come out sooner. My only concern with American Home Shield is that they don’t get with vendors who would provide 24/7 coverage. They always get somebody who operates on a Monday through Friday schedule and if you get an incident that happens on a Saturday morning like your air going out and you live in a 103-degree temperature every day and you have children, you can’t tolerate that all weekend. I hope when AHS does contracts, they should ensure that they get at least a contractor or two in different cities to provide services 24/7. But the contractor provided really quick and excellent service. He came then he didn’t leave until he made sure that everything was working properly.

We called American Home Shield and the tech that came claimed that the caulking work that had been done upstairs was just substandard, so the water was leaking from around the tub and then going downstairs. I had to take their word on that so I redid the caulking myself, and time will tell if that was the issue or not. Though my wife was a little perturbed by the nature of taking an action and then the answer not being that the problem was solved, having a warranty is great the times we’ve used it where everything went peachy. I’ve never had a home warranty so to me it’s great ‘cause these little things that weren’t done right and weren’t apparent during an inspection come up.

They were good on sending somebody out for our air conditioner but the guy who installed the pan did it wrong and it leaked. Now, we have water spots on our ceiling and the guy was supposed to come out and repaint our ceiling. However, we’ve yet to see him and that’s been two years. They were also great about replacing the water heater and dishwasher but not very good on the smoke detectors.

Every single smoke detector in our house was going off at the same time since they’re hardwired. We moved into the house five years ago and the two smoke detectors my husband took down had expired like they have a shelf-life on them. I was told that they would be replaced through American Home Shield and they would be sending out nine smoke detectors. However, when the electrician came, he did not have any smoke detectors. There was one chirping sound and he couldn't hear that very well. I had my son come in and he could hear it too. The electrician also told me that one unit wouldn't be covered as it's a carbon monoxide smoke detector but it was just a carbon monoxide detector so I wasn’t really pleased with his knowledge.

He told me that it would cost me $300 for him to come out and install the smoke detectors so I just went and bought them myself. I had my nephew and my son install them. I would like some clarity on the coverage since the rep that I spoke with on the phone said smoke detectors were covered in the policy while the person who called me back said they were not. I was very disappointed with the way that transaction went that I looked for somebody else but I’ve calmed down and renewed with American Home Shield.

My experience with American Home Shield was horrible. I had an ice maker break down in my freezer part of my refrigerator, so I went ahead and called them. It wasn't a problem getting through and scheduling the service. I took pictures of my equipment with the model number and serial number and send it to them so the techs knew before they came out what kind of parts they were gonna need. However, it took the techs four times to come here before they were able to fix it.

Thereafter, my pool pump went out and I had paid extra to have that covered. The techs came out and replaced a capacitor and that got it working for about three hours and it burned out again. I called the company that came out to fix it, and I asked what's the deal. The rep said that's the cheapest fix and that's what American Home Shield wanted them to do. He also said they can come back out but I have to make another appointment. I was on vacation when this happened. I came home, took four or five days to get them to come out, then it was like another four days for them to come out again. My pool was not usable and it was turning green with algae.

The guy also told me that if they come out again, they're gonna put another capacitor in. I told him I already had two that burned out. That was an indication that the motor was going bad. So at that point, I had my bank cancel the service call charge and I canceled my American Home Shield warranty. Also, I've spoken to a lot of people about this and they said they've had American Home Shield and they heard very bad things about them. Their experiences have been pretty bad as well.

The other thing is that I have called in and asked to talk to a supervisor and the reps said the supervisor wasn't available because of the volume of calls. I also asked them a lot of questions and they couldn't answer them and yet they couldn't find somebody who could help me. Their customer service stinks and they were rude. American Home Shield is a bad company.

Then I told them that I wanna put in the claim for the new house. I gave them the address and information for that house and they said that they'll have somebody sent out. But then, the people got sent out to the old house. They said that I went online and submitted the application online. I told them that I can’t submit that because I don’t have access to the online application for the new house.

However, the reps at AHS told me that it was my fault so they won't reimburse me and I would have to pay the people again. Since I already made the $100 payment for them to come out, there is no way for me to get compensated for that money. So basically, I lost $100 and to me that's terrible. In closing, setting up a contract is easy, it’s fair and not hard if you have one house. But if you have two houses, that’s where things get messed up. So give it a second or a third checkup or an email confirming the address is okay.

I've told people that American Home Shield is a great product. I've referred AHS to a lot of my friends. Everything’s covered and all you're gonna pay is one little small set fee to fix anything. Once, they couldn't fix my dryer so they got me a whole new unit. I also like submitting my claims online. If I have a problem I can get on whenever I have time and someone calls me the next day. A company would then come out and fix the issue. If they are not able to fix it, they order a part, call back in several days and come back. I've been happy with AHS' contractors.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is agonizing and very difficult. When you call, you are typically gonna spend a minimum of one hour of your time holding and then going through the process. We've done it online a couple of times too which was a better experience. But the problem is we've had AHS send out people before who simply could not diagnose or fix a particular issue and so we got in a situation where we had to talk to someone and tell them that the people they keep sending out were not working and that they'd have to find somebody different. Their representatives have been helpful though. My wife and I both have contacted them.

It would usually take AHS about four weeks to get a contractor to us. We've had issues where we got an order in and we've got notice of who would be contacting us then we won't hear anything, so we'd finally contact that company after two weeks of waiting and they'd tell us that they do not do such kind of work. Then when calling AHS, they would be like, "Oh, okay.” And so, they would try to get somebody else.

We've had a couple of good contractors. We've had a plumber in particular and he was a pretty good guy. But, most of the contractors who we ran into that are reputable, good local contractors are not the people who are working for AHS. The people that AHS get that’ll actually go through their BS are those who have to get some sort of work and so the people they do send out are not your topnotch local contractors.

We've had a couple heating and air guys, and one of them was just flat out rude to my wife. Then the last guy they sent out for getting airflow to two bedrooms was located an hour away and we've got tons of HVAC people here in Salina, Kansas, but AHS couldn't find anyone that would work with them. He was a nice guy, though, but some of the things he was telling us sounded like bogus. He tried to fix the problem, but the solutions he tried to come up kind of wasted our time. So, it's not fixed yet. We finally came to the conclusion that our duct work system just wasn’t designed very well. I don’t know how that could be because my daughter’s bedroom is almost right underneath the unit up in our attic, but somehow the people they’ve sent said they didn't see any issues.

Although there is no doubt that we've gotten value out of this home warranty as there were things that we would have had out of pocket that would have been very costly and AHS was able to step up and take care of, the issue is it better not be anything important. One time we had a sewage back up in our basement where we had toilet paper and feces backing up and it was like pulling teeth and AHS was gonna send someone out in a week type of thing. So, we just went ahead and took care of it, and dealt with AHS later. Then when I asked them on how we'd go about the reimbursement, there was a separate mail address and you have to snail mail everything to them. And in today’s technology and world, you would think you could email or fax them. There even was no phone number in particular for them to give a contact. They make it just as big of a pain in the butt to go through that process as they can.

We moved and redid AHS at our new location. Our dishwasher would stop in the middle of the cycle intermittently all the time and it wasn't draining. I called AHS, but the contractor showed up at my old house. I had to stop them when I called, and then they said that they could not transfer my policy. So, I had to cancel the other one and they gave me a credit. I started a new policy and the person who was signing me up was lovely and very nice. The contractor was great and they've done a lot of repairs at my old house

On the other hand, our AC went out last May. I got the claim approved by AHS and a tech from Always Heating & Cooling came, was in the house for five minutes and he was trying to put 15 gallons of Freon. He wanted to charge me a $2,250 fee. Why would I put $2,500 into a unit that is 24 years old? I was super dissatisfied with the technician and Always Heating & Cooling. We simply cancelled the whole claim and paid someone else out of pocket.

My most recent one was for our air-conditioning and it wasn't a great experience with the contractor. It needed Freon which he did put and now, it's repaired. However, he wasn’t really listening to what I was telling him. I was trying to stress to him that the unit wasn’t getting cold and it was as if he just wanted the $75 check and then he wanted to leave. Still, I would recommend others to get the warranty in the event that anything was to happen. AHS always responded back or tried to make sure that someone came out to do the work.

We switched to AHS last year and its been a horrible experience. If you call AHS, their wait time to speak to a person runs over an hour, for the most part the person who will eventually come online either ends up having no clue what to do, or transfers you with another hour or more of wait to talk to someone or disconnects the phone. They have no intention of actually fixing things, it seems to be a scam. Their website has a chat option which is not functional. In the middle of summer our air conditioner broke down. We created a service request on July 1 and its been 20 days already without the air conditioner, after multiple hours of waiting on the phone and with no help. It's disgusting that they take the money every month but when something actually breaks down, their plan is to just avoid the customers.

That I totally expected. The contractor installed a part to temporarily stop the leak until he came back with the correct part. Greatly appreciated until I noticed that he caused a leak under the sink that was not there before he came. When he returned, he came back and fixed the leak under the sink but the part that was ordered for the sink was wrong. It took over one month for them to come back with the correct part. When he came, he said that he had received the part but the office never called me to schedule the install.

I had a couple of claims filed simultaneously with American Home Shield. And while they were being resolved, I had another claim, which was the latest one for an electrical work. I submitted my claims online and then I’ve done it on the phone as well, but I find that I have better experience if I do it over the phone. When I filed over the computer, I had multiple claims at one time and when I called back to ask about my claims, I spoke with a representative who said, “Oh, these didn’t have to be filed separately. Since they were appliances, you could have filed the appliances under one claim and just had the one service fee.” So, she fixed them and it saved me $150 on service fee. And I didn’t know that when I did it on online. So, that worked out better.

I’ve had really good experience with contractors except for one and that was the plumbing and that was in April. The guy came in my home. I can see his truck, so I knew he was the service contractor whom we were supposed to meet. So, he came on in and as we were discussing the problem, I asked him his name and he refused to give me his name. He was the same service guy who had been to my house on a previous claim where he had told me, “This can’t be fixed. This is not covered under your contract.” So, that was really for nothing.

And this time, he started the same thing. I asked his name and he refused to tell me his name. We had some words of disagreement because I told him, “You know, you came to my house before. You didn’t do anything. And now, here we are the same thing. I’d like to talk with my service contracting agency to see why. If it’s not covered, I don’t know why it was scheduled for you to come.” He left and I reported this to American Home Shield and asked for another contractor and they came out and they fixed it.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for several years. So, I’ve had a history with them. They replaced the dishwasher for me this week and my range was replaced the first of the month. So, I’ve had two appliances recently replaced and it was confusing to me because maybe for the first appliances that I’ve had replaced. With the stove, it was a whole different process. They sent me some e-mail that had all counts of different choices and I chose from that list and I knew what other options I had available also. And when I made the choice and I called them, I was able to make arrangements for disposal of my old appliance.

So, when I did the dishwasher, they just told me one thing, “This is what you want.” I was happy with it, so that was not a problem. And I know that I was able to receive an amount of money and she made my own choice. But, I went ahead and take the one that was offered and they told me that they could not dispose of the dishwasher. I will have to make arrangement with the company who delivered it and installed it, which I was able to do. But, it’s been weird that a couple weeks before with my range, I had all that taken care of. And they just came in and performed everything they needed to do. But, I’m very happy overall. Also, when I reported a plumbing issue, they handled it appropriately and promptly. I would recommend American Home Shield.

However, there was a previous water heater claim that I was not happy with. American Home Shield was a rip off. They sent out Republic to do the repair on the water heater and they were a rip off as well. I had brand-new hoses that I wanted to be installed and the company that came out needed to use their hoses because mine weren't adequate. They wanted to charge me an additional 250 bucks to do the install along with the hoses. I ended up doing a buyout, paid for my own water heater, repairs and installation. It took a month before American Home Shield paid me for the water heater that I purchased myself. Also, I had to call them three times and they never called me back. We let the air off all day on Saturday so he would be able to work on it.

The tech called me about four o’clock and let me know that he had gotten our call and he was about to be there soon. Maybe it was my fault that I had kind of expected that he was on his way, and I called him back right about 45 minutes later. I asked him if he was en route. He told me that he had a couple of other calls and he'd call me as soon as he was headed out. That was fine with me. But then immediately, I got a call from the service manager. He essentially accused me of bugging the tech by calling him three times which I didn’t do. I said that I didn't understand and I just called him once. He also let me know that that tech was doing me a favor by coming out on a Saturday and that he didn’t follow the rules, to which I told him that that was not really my problem. My problem was I was sweating in two floors of my house because they didn’t fix the AC the first time. The guy got there at nine o’clock and he did his job and was out of there by 10 o’clock.

So, it wasn’t a great experience with United Air. And if I do ever have an HVAC issue again, I will ask American Home Shield not to send those guys out. But other than that, American Home Shield has been very responsive every time we needed something. It's funny though that we signed up for them and then all these things started falling apart. Also, I was able to do everything through the app, and everything worked out okay. I don't have to sit there and wait for somebody to answer the phone.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield when the fan on my air conditioner wasn't working. I then got an email from them that said that they assigned the company Climate King to my claim. I wasn't there when the contractor, Jason, came but my mom was there and she told me that he was really friendly and that when he arrived, he introduced himself. Jason called me while I was at work to let me know what was going on and he sounded really nice and knowledgeable. Since the service, my AC has been working great. American Home Shield was the company my ex-husband and I used when we were still together and we've used them different times for different appliances. After we got divorced and years later, I got my own policy with them for my house and I haven't had a problem with them. Get American Home Shield.

When one of my sinks broke, he had to check and see if I had faucet coverage because the whole faucet had to be replaced.

We have been using American Home Shield for five years now and I've always felt like I got my money’s worth out of them. So far, they have fixed the hot water heater, the dishwasher, as well as the plumbing. It's easy to file claims too. You just go online, submit a claim and then within 24 hours, somebody will call you and you just work out a time when they can come out. I've also called and I never had a problem. Also, all the service people that they use get out quickly and the problem is fixed.

Recently, the condenser fan that cools off the compressor on my air conditioner went out. Since it was the peak of the air conditioning season, it took the contractor three days to get out to fix it. It was an easy fix though. I called the contractor and told him what was wrong, so he had the part. He then came out, put the part on, and left. He fixed it the same day. Since the repair, everything is working fine. American Home Shield is a good and very reputable company. I have recommended them to my father-in-law.

Though it took a while for them to send somebody out, I understand as there were a lot of people that time of the year who were getting air conditioner problems. Still, when the tech came over, she did a good job. She fixed the air conditioner in a short time and it stayed fixed. When I asked her, she explained what happened to it. She was also nice and helpful and I was pleased with the service she gave. I would recommend American Home Shield.

But every time I try to call them to get a hold of somebody, I get put on hold for 20, 30 minutes at a time and I can't stand that anymore. Other than that, everything was good in my experience for the claim process on the clogged condensation part on my AC. I submitted the claim online and it took a couple of days before an electrician was sent out. And although it was an air conditioning problem, the electrician clarified it was a plumbing problem. So I called that same day and it took another day before A-1 Rapid Rooter came out. The contractors who came were all good people and professionals. They communicated very well and they did a good job especially in our area where it's as busy as it is for skilled labor.

I had very scary experiences with American Home Shield. When I call them to file a claim, sometimes it takes an hour just to get through and I have to wait on the phone to talk to them. But I found a way to get through them. I call Greenway, their contractor, and tell them to patch me through directly to AHS. One time, I spoke to one of the reps at AHS for a few minutes because when my sink was leaking, I thought it was my toilet bowl that was leaking. The lady I talked to wasn't very helpful. Then I had a plumber from Greenway come out for that and when he was here, I wasn't home at first. My housekeeper was there and he asked her how much money she made. She was scared of him and shaking when I got home. It was really bad.

Then he asked for baking soda and vinegar to flush down the drain. I gave that to him then I called Greenway. I told them that I needed somebody to tell the guy to get out of my house as quickly as possible. Their customer service person who answered the phone was not very kind or nice. That rep didn't care or do anything else. She put me on hold for 20 minutes, then I spoke to one person and said I would like to have a manager call me. But nobody ever called.

I also wanted somebody else to comeback because my sink was still dripping and leaking. They said that a part was ordered by the guy that was here but he didn’t finish the work. I know I threw him out in the middle but he didn’t have the equipment and said that he couldn't afford any. Still, Greenway did not send anybody else and I ended up having somebody come out in the week later after the part was ordered. I had another claim where the tech from Greenway had to order parts which took six months. They forgot to order the parts and I had to go between Greenway and American Home Shield about it. And AHS didn’t pay for for the parts.

Then, I had an issue with my AC. I called up American Home Shield and got a tech from Greenway again. I had the whole coil replaced and the air conditioning is not working properly. So, I am calling AHS back again. That repair cost me $4,000 out of pocket and American Home Shield covered a couple of hundred but that was about it. So, my experiences with them and Greenway have not been so wonderful. Again, the tech they sent was unprofessional, and again, Greenway did not do anything to rectify the matter or call me about it.

Other than that, there were a couple of contractors that have been with American Home Shield for a long time who were very good. So, if you get them, you’re lucky. I also had some that didn’t come from 12 to five and they didn’t come until eight o’clock at night. I’ve had that a lot and with them, you don't really know when somebody's gonna show up. I also had some experiences waiting for people to come and they did not come. So right now, I'm becoming more specific in asking for service and I’m working on only getting the people that I know. But sometimes, if you don’t want to get Greenway, you have to wait three weeks to get somebody else. One time, I had to wait for somebody else to repair something and it took me a week. Then, I had an ice machine that took six months to repair. But there were a couple good of guys that I know who were pretty decent. You just have to keep having people come out again and again.

AHS put the service on "recall". It's now July 19, 2018, it's been over 2-months now. What's occurred over these two months is beyond frustrating. The vendor has been unresponsive to my calls, they set up an appointment and didn't show up, and their unprofessionalism continues. AHS has no other vendors on their list for this service, I offered one local vendor.

AHS said I need to continue to wait for PoolPro to follow-through. I again requested to obtain outside services, find my own vendor and be reimbursed. AHS said they need to continue waiting for this vendor to respond and PoolPro is their only option. I asked how long AHS was willing to wait for their vendor to service my spa, 1-year or 2-years. They, in essence, said as long as it takes. AHS has poor problem-solving abilities despite their intent to provide customer service. They are not able to provide great service due to poor policies and procedures.

I have had AHS coverage on my home for many years. I have only used my coverage once prior to the issues I am currently experiencing. I contacted AHS because my A/C unit went out. Contractors from ATR General Services Heating-Cooling & Home Improvement in Alexandria, VA were sent to my home on 6/12/18, 6/19/18, 6/23/18, 7/2/18, and today 7/19/18 they will be coming again. Each time one contractor would "diagnose" the problem then two days later another would come to fix the problem which the "fix" would only last about a week. I have been without steady working a/c in my home for over a month now and I live in Maryland where the temperatures have reach 100 degrees.

The a/c unit is 16 years old and needs to be replaced!!! Enough is enough with the patchwork!!! I requested another company come to diagnose the unit and I was told by AHS that the original company had to come back out first because it had been past 7 days since the initial diagnosis before I could have another company come out. So that's more days without a/c in my home!!! What kind of sense does that make?! It's clear the ATR is incompetent or trying to rip AHS or me off!!! My second issue with AHS is my hot water heater also went out and the contractor All Clear Plumbing & Drain in Laurel, MD upcharged me by over $1000 just to replace the hot water heater.

And All Clear when they came out they did not drain the tank so the water continued to leak for days!!! Of course AHS will only cover the water heater and I requested the cash out value which I was told would take 24 hrs. I call back the next day and another representative tells me that it takes 3-5 business days!!! Your reps need to give accurate and complete information to long standing, loyal, paying customers!!! Now I am without a/c and a hot water heater and AHS has done nothing about it!!! I would not recommend AHS to anyone!!! AHS takes your money and you get very little to nothing in return.

Updated on 07/20/2018: The level of incompetence between AHS and ATR Heating and Air Conditioning is UNBELIEVABLE!!! A month has passed and my A/C unit is STILL not functioning properly!!! A service person from ATR came to my home yesterday to diagnose the problem AGAIN and another service person comes 30 minutes later, almost walking directly into my home without me answering the door, with parts in hand looking for the other service person that had already left! INCOMPETENT!

Then I find out ATR did not put in the service request until last night and AHS has not approved the repair so another day has passed and my unit is still not repaired. It is now the weekend so if it is not approved today I won't be able to get an appointment until next week! I am losing time at work and using my leave to be home waiting around for ATR for them not to fix my a/c unit. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! Stop with the patchwork of my 16 year old unit... REPLACE IT!!! THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! I was told today by AHS that a supervisor would be contacting me, which has not happened and it is now after 4 pm! I have made premium payments to AHS for over 5 years and have only used them once and this is the service that a long-standing paying customer receives?!

I had bought a dishwasher on Scratch and Dent but the plumbing wasn’t plumbed right for the dishwasher. So I needed to have it re-plumbed. American Home Shield scheduled a plumber. I had had that contractor for a previous American Home Shield warranty service on my shower and I specifically requested him to come out. So I was glad he came out.

But then American Home Shield told him that he couldn't do the service. They wanted to have a plumber do the plumbing then have a separate contractor do the dishwasher when the plumber could have done both. Then American Home Shield told him that the service never should have been approved because nothing was broken. So there was a big fiasco. When I submitted the claim, the lady kept saying that I had a plumbing leak and I kept telling her that I didn't have a leak. I told her that the plumbing was hardlined for the dishwasher when it was supposed to have an end cap that goes to a flexible hose. So I needed to have the plumbing recapped so I could put in the flexible hose.

I ended up telling the plumber that since they do the plumbing and installation of appliances on their own, to go ahead and do the work then I would pay for the service fees. But afterwards, American Home Shield kept wanting to charge me for services that were not rendered. I refused to pay the $75 service fee for that ‘cause the visit never should’ve been scheduled. I had to fight tooth and nail about paying that service fee. Also, I kept getting emails three months later about the appliance installer. American Home Shield kept wanting to send him out and to charge me for the service after the request was cancelled. So American Home Shield is piss-poor on the business management and on their scheduling, and I refused to renew with them. I’m going to a competitor that I was referred to that’s cheaper and does a better job.

The problem that we had on our AC was pretty much the same thing that had been going on for the past four years and it finally got fixed. Each time, they said I was low on the refrigerant. It seemed to me that everybody just came and hooked up the little thing to check if it was low. Last year we paid for a sealant and we filled up a pipe. And then the person that came out prior to Tim said that there was a leak. There was no way it was a leak since we just filled the leak last year. I took it upon myself to get another estimate before I filed the claim to AHS. Then, they sent Tim’s Heating and Cooling and the tech wanted to do the same thing that had been done for the past three years. I told him to check the HVAC system that’s inside of the house and he was kind enough to go check. He found out it was the coil and it had been messed up for the past three years and I’d been spending $300 every year for that. He was great and he explained everything.

However, I need an invoice for my repairs that I also filed a claim with at American Home Shield. I was told that I can go online to get an invoice but I can’t. I’ve called AHS and requested this invoice, and it’s gonna be a month and I still haven’t gotten it. I called again to request the invoice because I need it for my homeowners insurance. The rep told me it would take me 24 to 48 days before I could get it. Other than that, I’ve had AHS for 11 years and they have always taken care of everything. I'm not happy with American Home Shield at all. We have a dishwasher that makes dirty dishes instead of clean ones, and I've heard all manners of nonsense about what's wrong with it. The guy that came out said, "You need to clean your filter," but he's cleaned the filter five times. He got angry the last time and I said, "Why would I suddenly need to be cleaning the filter when you've just done it? I'm running two or three loads a week and I'm putting in clean dishes and getting out dirty. So it's nothing that I'm doing, it's something that the appliance is doing."

I asked American Shield not to send that particular vendor out again, so they sent another one who came out last week. This guy postulated that it's because I have hard water and it's causing the dishes to get dirty. I said, "The water's not gonna be harder than it's been for the 15 years we've lived here. Why don't you fill the glass from the tap and take a look at it and see what you think?" The bottom line is I don't have a dishwasher that works and I have been treated like crap by American Home Shield. Every time I call, they don't want to talk to me because my husband's name is on the policy, even though he told them 5,000 times to talk to me because he has cancer and he doesn't wanna deal with appliance companies. What they're gonna do is annoy me to death. They think that I'll end up buying a new dishwasher which will fix the problem but I can refuse to.

The other day I had to hold for AHS for quite sometime and then a guy actually hung up on me 'cause he didn't like that I didn't like what he said. And the wait time to get them back was half an hour. Anything we've had to have fixed has required multiple calls, trips and hassles. A couple of years ago, we just gave up and bought something new 'cause I was tired of it. In terms of how many calls to come out and fix something, that is recommendable. They're also handier for my other houses because I don't have to go there. But I'm very dissatisfied and I would only recommend them to somebody I didn't like. And when my dishwasher is done, I'm canceling them and getting another appliance company.

My air conditioner and water heater went out within the same 24 hours. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the Air Doctor came for the air conditioner. They were very good. I had a clog in the drain and there was a flood that went into the hole and through the walls. They came quickly knowing there was water around and I’m in a high-rise building. They changed some of the piping in the air conditioner so it was worthy for the visit. They checked everything and all was working fine.

As for the water heater, I had to pay to replace it. The techs couldn’t get a new one quickly enough but since I would be in the hospital the next day and I needed a water heater to take a shower for preop, their people came and took a picture of the water heater to ascertain what was wrong as they saw it was all rusted and water was coming out of it. Through my building, they sent a plumber with a water heater and it was done within that day. They put in the unit which was a bigger one than what I had but I didn’t care at that point. I just said that I needed whatever he could get for me. They gave me the wholesale price of replacing what I had so it was fair.

The people American Home Shield sent were good. They came when they said they were going to come and because the AHS representative had to find one that was willing to come quickly and he did, there was no problem. Although the contractor wasn’t always their first choice, it worked out. The men came out and I could get reimbursed for whatever I could be reimbursed for. All in all, AHS was great because they did what I needed them to do and it was what I hoped they could do when I took the policy. If you ever need something, wanna sleep well, and have somebody that you can rely on, get AHS. But their tough to get to on weekends and everything seems to happen on a Saturday night. Still, I’m gonna renew my policy again in November.

American Home Shield needs to do away with the automated call and make it go to a person instead. When you call, you get asked, "Is this a claim?" or "Are you trying to get something fixed?" When you say, "Yes," you get asked what and then for example you say, "Air condition," the automated service tries to link you to somebody. That doesn't always work out well because a lot of the companies don't work on the kind of AC unit that I owned. So I called about my AC that was blowing hot and the rep was fine once I got to him.

The AC wasn't fixed at one time and it took four times to get it fixed. I get Cutting Edge Total Comfort every time and I've been home every time they fix it, except once. And I talk to them like they're people and I hold a conversation with them while they're working. The same guy worked on the AC before but maybe he was having a bad day. On the third time, they sent the supervisor out and he looked at it. He said that the Freon was low again. So I said, "Well, if I'm low on Freon, we got another problem." And then it iced up on me, so they came back and fixed it the next day. Now, it's 71 degrees in my house at all times. Overall, American Home Shield does what they're supposed to do, so I'm happy with them.

There was something wrong with my range, and AHS sent out the contractor and he fixed the part. But it still wasn’t working, and I called up and he said that he needed a different part. They said they would call when the part came in, and that was two more weeks that I didn’t have a working oven. And then he came back and said it was working, and he didn’t put a new part in. He had a part to put in and that was what I was waiting for, and he never put it in, and he left.

I got insurance so that I would be taken care of, but that’s not the way that AHS works. I wasn’t really happy with the fact that when I called them and said I needed a new stove because the one I have is old and it's breaking down. But they just kept putting parts in until they run out of resources. Whereas the last company that I had, my disposal had broke, and the guy came out, and he said there was no way of fixing it, and they replaced it right away. They didn’t replace it with the one I had, but they replaced it. So different strokes for different companies.

The condenser in my AC quit and I needed a repairman. I called American Home Shield and they scheduled me. And then, the contractor called and set a time. He came and took care of the problem in a very short time and it was great. He was very nice, professional and neat. He showed us the part and we talked to him a bit. He said that this problem was not unusual. He had the part and he replaced it and the AC has been working fine since. My experience with American Home Shield has been fine all the way around and I would recommend them. I’m really happy. It’s our third year being with them and we've used them twice.

My AC unit upstairs went down for the second time. The first time it did, I paid to put antifreeze in it because that was what they told me I needed. It was working fine last year but when I tried to run it again this year, it wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield but when I saw that they were dispatching the company I had used in another house that I live in not too long ago, I called them back and told them that I didn't want that company as they were horrible. So they sent me a different company.

This time, the AC wasn’t cooling again and all the antifreeze leaked out. It was hot as hell. The AC downstairs was working and I had to go and invest in industrial fans. I put one at the end of the stairs so that it can blow upstairs and then put another one in the hallway so that the air can circle up upstairs into everybody’s room and then we bought little fans for everybody’s room. I had to demand the guy to figure out what was the problem. I have two units and I made sure that they looked at both of them. I would have had to pay $300 just for antifreeze if I listened to him. I had to direct him on what needed to be done and he found out the problem was the cooling cord.

American Home Shield never called me back to tell me what was going on. When I finally called them, I could barely understand the person I was talking to. She has an accent. She kept on saying that it was denied and I didn’t get what she was talking about. She finally had to dispatch over to a supervisor and I was told that they don’t cover the coil. It was crazy. I wound up paying somebody else $65 just to get a second opinion to make sure that I wasn’t getting ripped off. The contractor fixed it today and I paid $640.

American Home Shield used to be a really good company when they first started but they have just gotten really bad. This is like my second or third time giving them a try and I'm not going forward with them anymore. Sometimes it’s good, and sometimes it’s bad. I’m gonna look further into another company. I probably would still recommend American Home Shield but I would be more detailed so that the person knows exactly what they cover. Even though they give you this little handout of what they cover, most of the people don’t even know what that is.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for the garbage disposal. It was leaking lots of water. Every time I would turn it on and even though I’ve used it and haven’t turn it on, it still was leaking water. That was when we called them to file a claim. It was easier to do it online. It was quick than calling somebody because the first time I called and it was for a plumbing issue, it took a little while. But for the first one, they scheduled really quick as well. So far, we’ve been having a good luck using them for two small things that had already been done in the house.

When the contractor got there he looked at the garbage disposal and he knew what it was right away. He did mention that whatever we had was one-third of a horsepower so he said, “Well, I can upgrade it to one horsepower or half of the horsepower for $50 extra.” Plus the $75 that we had to pay them. I don’t use it that much but I don’t wanna call in a month and have the appliance replaced again so I said, “Okay, go ahead and do it.” Everything is working fine since the repair. We only have been with AHS for about two months but so far, so good.

He should’ve looked into it more. I thought about calling American Home Shield back but that’s another service charge.

Also, the company that I had with my AC issue was the best air conditioning company. I called their company that morning after I called American Home Shield and they were able to get me that afternoon and get me up and running so I was extremely happy. Also, the service guy that came out was old school like myself and he made sure it was done that day. He had the head motor on the truck and I was just surprised with that. He didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need. He was very cordial and was exceptional too. The AC is working good since the repair.

I have been having ongoing issues over the past year with by HVAC unit. It first started with the heat not working. Advance Appliance came out to address the issue. First the thermostat was replaced then I had to have the circuit replace. Fast forward a few months later and another service fee. The AC part was not working. They advised that there was a leak somewhere but did not investigate. They advised that because of the leak I needed Freon. My unit takes R22 which unknown to me was not covered by AHS. So on top of the service fee I had to pay for the Freon. The unit worked for the warmer months. Now comes time for the heat to be turned on. To my surprise it does not work. Again I call AHS and again another service fee is charged to have Edwards Heating and Air come out.

The technician that comes out advises that the unit needs to be cleaned, but does not clean it but attempts to upsell a program his company has. He also advised that there was too much Freon in the system stating that the other company overcharged it. So what does he do? Take the freon out and leaves the unit dirty. Fast forward another few months and now again it is time for the AC to be turned on and to my surprise it is pushing out warm air. By this point I have had it with AHS and the companies they send out so I hire someone else and pay out of pocket. After a good cleaning, capacitors replaced, and contacts replaced guess what it needs? Freon! Based on the trusted technician one of the two companies equipment was not working correctly to gauge the Freon levels and after cleaning the unit one of the two companies damaged the coils of the unit.

I contact AHS to request that both technicians returned to fix this problem but they advise they can only send one. Base on this I attempt to compromise and agree to have one come out but the catch, they wanted me to pay yet another service fee. They advised that I could get in direct contact with the company myself for any issues. I am not paying another service fee to AHS to fix a problem their contractors created so I directly contact Edward's Heating and Air since they were the last to service the unit. Edward's is no longer under contract with AHS and will not come out. I was advised that I need to contact AHS to resolve the issue. I contact AHS again, and they advised they are no longer liable since they are not contracting out to Edward's. That is complete BS but still attempting to settle this without lawyers I hang up and call Advance Appliance.

They advised that they could come out but could not guarantee Freon wouldn't be charged and advised that they needed a service call from AHS. I again contact AHS and advised that Advance Appliance said they would come out but needed a service call from them. AHS advised that a service fee would be charged. AHS was not helpful at all to resolve this issue. When I asked on multiple occasions to speak with a supervisor I was denied stating that there was nothing they could do. I have been a customer with AHS for two years and in my opinion two years too long. The next contact AHS will have from me will be by my lawyers.

As warm weather began in Louisiana at the end of March we discovered our air conditioner was not working. AHS dispatched Total Air Care. We paid the $125.00 service fee. We were told the unit was low on Freon and the charge would be an additional $250.00. We understand the AHS only pays $10.00 per pound for Freon so we understood. However, my husband specifically asked about a leak and was told there was no leak. Sometimes units just get low on Freon. The unit worked slightly better but continued to get worse as the weeks passed so we called again in June. AHS again dispatches Total Air Care on June 30. We pay another $125.00 service fee. They tell us the Freon is fine, tinker with it, replace a few minor parts and declare it fixed.

Within days the air conditioner blows only hot air. It is a holiday weekend with the 4th of July, so AHS can't get Total Air Care back until Monday, July 9. Technician states we are low on Freon. My husband insists he find the leak since it was just filled with Freon. Technician reluctantly investigates and declares the evaporator coil is leaking and will need to be replaced. Says he will order the part. We wait until Friday and begin calling Total Air Care. They will not return our calls. Called AHS on Monday, July 16. They will look into the matter and have an answer for us by 5:00 pm. We finally receive word on Tuesday, July 18 the AHS has given Total Air Care permission to order the part. However, they can not find an evaporator coil for our unit so they will have to order a different model and we will have to pay $375.00 to modify our unit so the new evaporator coil will fit!!

In addition, they can not give us an estimate of when the part will come in! I actually asked if they could give me a guess. Two days, two weeks, or two months? The AHS representative told me that she had no idea, we would just have to wait. I asked her how long it was acceptable for us to go without air conditioning? We have been without a properly working unit for 4 months. The heat index is currently 107 degrees. In addition to our monthly premiums we have paid an additional 500.00 out of pocket with the service fees and Freon and will be required to pay another $375.00 for the modifications. I was simply told they have no control over how long it takes to get a part in and I would just have to wait. I have had an AHS warranty for 9 years. This is not the service I expected. I feel like the money I spent on monthly premiums was a complete waste.

We purchased a house, got home warranty. Had a plumbing problem and locks that needed to be rekeyed. Contractor never contacted me to schedule appt, called AHS. Complained. Thought problem was resolved. Customer service credited me back on both cases, for my trouble and aggravation, and redispatched "only locksmith in area under AHS contract". And a different plumber. That plumber made appt and was on time. Resolved issue. Locksmith never made any attempt to contact me. Contacted customer service again. Wanted to speak with supervisor, got nothing but runaround. After 3 days of making phone calls to customer disservice finally got a "supervisor" on the phone.

An agreement was reached for me to get a licensed locksmith of my choosing and pay for the service and AHS would reimburse me. That was first part of May. Is now middle of July. Still no reimbursement, on top of which I received a bill for the plumber. I have made 9 phone calls to AHS to get this resolved, with no results, I have waited on the phone for over an hour waiting for supervisor, and have requested multiple times to have a supervisor contact me. Still no results. Apparently this home warranty contract isn't worth the paper it is written on.

I highly do not recommend customer to waste their money on any of American Home Shield's product. The customer service rep do not submit correct orders to their contractors; very unprofessional contractors especially City Plumbing located in Clovis, CA. Save your money and do not buy AHS warranty. AHS customer service are receptive when they are selling the insurance to you however when you try to use the insurance you run into roadblocks. The major roadblock I've encountered is AHS does not submit correct or complete work orders to their contractors. The contractors will come out to the house and only complete what's on their work order.

I have been dealing with AHS since March 2018 to get my plumbing fixed. The contractor messed up a working sink. The sink does not work at all and is missing parts. The contractor ordered parts and had these parts delivered to my house. AHS has no record of these parts being ordered. When you try to call the plumber; they have no recollection of the ordering these parts and continue to put you off by saying, "The contractor will contact you." Obviously I didn't order the parts; I have no idea what parts to order. The contractor has been piece mailing the parts to the house since March of 2018. Totally unprofessional. During the meantime, I now have an un-working sink in the main bathroom of my house. Call AHS the contractor weekly for an update and yet there is no record of any my conversation.

American Home Shield has been really good. They listen to issues and are right on top of getting me help. They keep me on hold while they reach out to the repair company and make all the arrangements. Most of the contractors that I've dealt with were pretty good and I usually can get somebody out here within the next day. They've been out several times to fix my appliances like my stove, water heater and washing machine. They've fixed whatever they thought the problem was with the appliances.

The only issue that I have so far is my air conditioner. It was repaired a month ago, and then having it repaired again. But that's on the technician that came out so I'm not having to pay another service fee. They couldn't get anybody out here today to get it fixed so they gave me the opportunity to call my own technician out to get it fixed. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anybody to come out before next week because everybody's booked up. Also, I was really hesitant and uncomfortable to pay the cost upfront and then bill AHS an invoice because one of the repair people that I talked to said that if I don't send them the invoice the way they want it, they won't pay me back. So, if the air conditioning company doesn't fill out the invoice right and break down the charges as labor, cost, repairs, American Home Shield won't reimburse me.

So, I chose not to go that route although I'm without air until Tuesday and went back through AHS to schedule somebody to come out. It's not convenient and it would be nice if they have emergency services on hand, like somebody that they could call on in an emergency to come out and fix whatever that needs to be fixed. Nevertheless, I always refer AHS and tell others that they're really good. I've even asked my mom to get them.

And they could have given more information and follow-up. I would not buy American Home Shield again. Rather, there's a BFS here who's upfront and honest, covers more and does a better job.

American Home Shield is perfect. I filed a claim for my washing machine recently because it was leaking water from underneath. And when I called, I got a call back immediately and I had a repairman come out the next day. It was fast to do it on the phone. And sometimes I just prefer the one-on-one as opposed to online, because I know that I’ve spoken to a human being and I like that there’s somebody there that I can reach out to as opposed to, “Did they get that email or didn’t they?”

I’ve used AHS on several different things, but the only thing that I really questioned about this one is that I didn’t usually have to call the contractor first but I ended up doing that because I didn’t hear from them. I called the contractor and they said, “Oh, yeah. We got your message. Can we set an appointment?” I was like, “Okay.” Usually they call me immediately to do that. But it was okay. We set the appointment and he was there promptly. And he called me to let me know and he was great. He was there when he said he would be.

I like the fact that they’re always there for me. And we recently had a friend who passed away and his granddaughter moved in his house. She is a girl and she doesn’t know how to fix a lot of things. I talked to her about it and told her that she needed to get AHS so that when she did have a repair, she doesn’t have to worry, that somebody will always be there.

The only complaint I have is that the technician who came out didn't really diagnose the problem correctly. After he gave his diagnosis and sent me the new AC, American Home Shield denied the claim because they said it was damaged due to preferred damage. I went out to the breaker box, switched on some breakers and the unit came on so it was really the breaker box. I didn't appreciate the technician not going outside to the breaker box at the time he was here to see if it was a circuit. We didn't get any service for the $125 that we paid. I couldn't re-open the claim and get someone to come out and put Freon in it since they said it passed the time but I wish I could. That one was a pretty bad experience but overall, I had a fair experience with American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield for an AC that was not cooling. It is an old unit and is undersized for the home it was installed in. The rep who I spoke with was positive as far as data collection. And then they turned it over to a contractor who came out to the house. The repair person determined that the unit was working, but it was not enough to cool the house down. I've had good interactions with him as he was able to communicate the problem.

However, if the unit isn't cooling down adequately because of age, it's like a death battle 'cause it's not working as it did in the first 10 years of life. It's on its 40% downsize, and it's not running to capacity. It's my burden because I bought the house not as is. There was a home warranty, but it didn't repair or resolve the home issue. So there was a missing link between what is classified as working or repaired versus working and capable of what the intended service should be. There was a confusion as to what is covered and what is not. People should understand what is within the scope of repair versus replace, and understand that they may have a unit that functions, works, outputs cool air when it comes to the furnace, but that doesn’t mean that AHS would replace it if it's an inadequate system.

American Home Shield sent RAM Heating and AC. The interaction I had with them was fine. But the problem was not fixed. They were supposed to fix the faucet and it was working when they left, but a week later, it was not working. It was only one side that wasn't working. Now both sides are not working. I haven't called AHS because I have to stay on hold for so long that I dread calling them. And I don't have time to be on the phone. The last time I submitted a claim I did it online because if I wouldn't have done it online, then it wouldn't have been done at all.

My daughter was picking out her college and it took us about 55 minutes to get to that college from our home and I was on hold the entire time. And when they finally came on the phone, it was right when we got to the University. And then I had to be in a rush, trying to tell them to hurry up what I needed, because we were there to the University and I was too busy holding and trying to explain to them. It's really unacceptable.

I also called AHS for my vacuum, for my central vac system. And they told me that with the issues that I was having they don't cover like the hose part of it, like the head part of that thing was broken. The seals on the holes in the wall are not there so it doesn't have good suction because of those seals. They told me that they weren't sure if that was covered or if it wasn't. And then they never got back with me.

And with the toilet I could tell that it was leaking because of the ceiling under it. They came and told me that there was a crack in the base or something like that and that they don't cover that. And even now, the faucet that is covered is still not fixed. And with my vacuum and toilet they are still not done because it's still like that and my toilet is still that way. My husband keeps telling me that I need to discontinue. But I am satisfied. They did cover one thing at the very beginning, which was my refrigerator. I recommended American Home Shield to two people and they got it.

Since we moved into the new house, I've had to reach out to American Home Shield a few times about some claims and they've been pretty good. Their guys are very prompt and professional in getting things sent to contractors, though there's less quality control in making sure that it's the right contractor for the job. The hardest claim we had was some hiccups over a bathtub claim. The Whirlpool bathtub was complicated because the plumbers were not equipped to deal with the motors and jets. At some cases, AHS sent pool men types, and the pool men weren't well-equipped to get into the house or a second story bathtub that required a ladder for access. That one was a little bit tough 'cause there wasn't a natural home for it, but I would think that Whirlpool bathtubs would be a fairly regular component of one of the houses that they cover.

The repair work wasn't done and I didn't get a great answer as to what the repair would have been, but we took a cash out option and chose to replace the tub rather than repairing it. My only other gripe is I have a trash compactor in the house, which I understand either is not covered under the new home purchase plans or I need to add coverage for it, which I did not and now it's too late. I had issues with it and I am not covered, so, I'm paying that out of pocket directly with a contractor that AHS sent out for an oven issue. I wish I would have known and I wish there was a way to have coverage for the trash compactor in the future. In general, American Home Shield is very good. Though sometimes they have a cumbersome claim resolution process, they have good customer service.

I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. Then the contractor, His and Hers Plumbing, called me. I scheduled with them, they came out and the gentleman explained everything to me. He was pretty down to earth and was able to explain everything pretty easily. He got to work and cleared away very quickly. He fixed the leak and said the sink was working as intended. It looked a little wet though and I checked with a paper towel. The repair was good but it needs to be double checked because it looks like there’s moisture.

I’ve had two claims so far with AHS and to get warranty work done, I’m paying a $75 fee upfront. So I’ve already spent $500 on the yearly plan, but then to have someone out, I’m paying $75 upfront regardless of what needs to be done. But AHS saved me a lot of money. If something breaks, I’m afraid of how much it’s gonna cost. It’s always in my head and it’s quadruple with the numbers. With American Home Shield, it’s “Okay I’m having issues, I’m just gonna call someone.” It takes the stress out of having to have repairs made and not knowing what it’s gonna cost me. The thing is, whenever I file a claim for my parents, they call my parents directly when they make appointments and stuff so I don't get to talk to anybody directly after I made the claim. But the company AHS sent out did a good job. They had to come out three times to fix the issue. The second time they came out was because of the initial reason. The unit froze up again so they changed some things out. Then, the third time they came out, it was a for a different issue but it was still part of the same claim. They fixed it and ever since then the unit has been fine.

I filed online a claim in regards to my water bill being high and water leakage. I looked for one of the drop-down menus, so filing the claim was easy, but usually, I go over the phone when submitting claims. Then I called in because of my water bill. I wanted them to figure it out. They sent someone out and I tried to make sure that they took care of it. If not, I’d call back to get it taken care of because I’m tired of paying for it.

The contractors came out and checked my toilets to see why my water bill was so high. The issue was the tap. I know they go bad and I don't have a problem with that, but the frequency is the problem. I've called people out three times and it shouldn’t be going bad that fast. When the contractors come, I usually let them in, take them to the problem, tell them what’s going on, then they’ll tell me what’s wrong and if the issue is covered. If it is, they’ll fix it and if they have to order parts, they’ll order the part and come back when they have it. I'm very satisfied. I like American Home Shield and would recommend them.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 16 years and for a while, the customer service was bad in terms of getting the help that I needed. I was having issues with my stovetop. I needed one that had a downdraft and I wanted one with coils, but I couldn't get one that had a downdraft with coils. The technician from the company that was sent out said that AHS will get in touch with me and that there's nothing the company can do for us. I told them that I'm glad I called because I would have never known this cause nobody has contacted me. The person from American Home Shield walked me through all my options, and I thought I was gonna have to pay extra to have a stovetop come in and she told me what they were gonna pay and gonna do and I'll get the whole stovetop so it was great. I'm satisfied.

In the past, though, American Home Shield has had its ups and downs with us on our air conditioning unit. We had a rough time getting it fixed properly and I don't know if it were the shady contractors that came in and didn't want to spend the money and they were trying to get as much as they could from American Home Shield. But finally, when they came out to fix it, that was taken care of. AHS had also sent people to fix my garbage disposal and my water heater and things were good.

Other than that, you're gonna be dissatisfied with the wait time to get to talk to somebody. It's a long time when you have to wait for 30 minutes to get a callback and if you don't have somebody that's skilled and being able to listen and then resolve the problem, you don't want to keep on getting passed on to the next person, and then ask to wait again for almost 30 minutes to talk to the person. That's pretty aggravating back then. But AHS is trying to fix whatever deficiencies they're having right now, and a good thing is that whatever problems they got, they're trying to fix them to keep their customers.

My refrigerator got noisy, so I called and a technician came to make a report. No action was taken. Refrigerator is now really noisy, and conversation is not possible in the kitchen, so I called again. Technician came out, said he made a report, and no action was taken. I called the company just now and they say they don't have the latest report, which is odd. But I did find out some good info on the phone: AHS will not take action unless the refrigerator actually stops cooling, so the noise that I'm reporting is not really relevant.

I wish that I knew this before, as a technician visit is $75. The contract does say that action will be taken if there is a "mechanical issue". In my mind the noise indicates a... well, mechanical issue, but as I said above, the company has a different idea which means that I need to get an old fashioned cooler ready to store food when the fridge actually stops working. Since I was ignorant of this fine point, I thought I would point it here to help other folks understand.

I made a service request & asked that the deductible be paid the day of service. I then almost immediately cancelled the service request. While reviewing my bank account I noticed that AHS had taken the deductible out of my checking account anyway. I called them and although the customer service agent (Jay) & his supervisor (Jeremy) could see that they had charged me all they would say is it will take 14-21 days to review & the money would be sent back to my account. All this after I had told them, several times, we are moving in a week, the account is being closed.

This company is so tied to its computerized structure & scripts that they cannot comprehend the human element. I had to explain MULTIPLE times that I am closing my in a week. I really preferred to have the refund before that time, but apparently they are incapable of that. If they cannot give me my refund in a timely manner then I need a check mailed. And, I kept hearing it will go back into my account. I'm hoping they finally get it right. However, because it is obvious that they follow a script & rely on their computers I'm not confident anyone will see their "note" to send a check. They should not have taken the money in the first place & then it takes a month to refund their error?? Ridiculous!! I only gave their customer service people 2 stars because they were polite & maintained their composure.

I'm a retired service member living on a fixed income so making sound financial decisions is a must. I have a 30yr old Air Conditioning system in my home that was working as well as a unit that old could work in the summers of Southern Ga... (just barely). I contacted my home warranty company, American Home Shield and was assigned a service request. After paying for the service call up front, the tech said I needed a new compressor and that I would have to pay for the refrigerant $680 (out of pocket), which I did. After the tech returned with a supervisor it was determined that it was uneconomically sound to put a new compressor in such an old unit and that a necessary replace of the entire unit had to be done. The new unit came pre-charged with refrigerant at no additional cost. So wouldn't you think that I was due a refund of $680 for the unused refrigerant? Not according to American Home Shield.

After questioning American Home Shield, I was referred back to the service tech Southern Comfort HVAC, Inc. I was then told that the $680 was used to cover the cost of modifications not cover in the contract. Ok, this was not a modification. It's what my warranty refers to as a "necessary replacement", which is covered. Isn't it a coincidence that the cost of the "Uncovered Modifications" are the same as the unused refrigerant?? And if it was a modification, who made the decision that it was ok to use my money as they saw fit without contacting me first??? At that point I should have been asked if I wanted to proceed. A call was made to request $680 for refrigerant, why not a call to find out whether or not if I wanted to pursue this further?

After going over my contract and talking with several American Shield reps who pointed out exceptions that didn't apply, I'm left holding the bag for a $680 which American Home Shield should have covered. And to add insult to injury, I've been what I thought was a valued costumer for over 20yrs. So if you have American Home Shield Home Warranty don't wait to get ripped off... Get rid of it!!! If this is how you treat your long term customers, why should anyone become a new one?? So, the morale of the story is... If you want a reliable home warranty company > "STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD"!!!

My AC unit stopped going to the cooling mode. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and their online portal was great. I was then forwarded to a company and that company's rep called me. However, without even sending anyone out to look at the issue, the person just assumed, “Oh, okay. If it’s this and this, we’re gonna have to replace the whole unit and your unit is on your roof. We don’t have a truck that can get it up there so I’m gonna cancel you and you’re gonna have to get someone else.” So they canceled me. They didn't even try.

And then I had to resubmit a request for service through American Home Shield. AHS then provided me with another company and they were phenomenal. The person that the company sent out was able to diagnose that I had a bad thermostat and that there was a capacitor that needed to be replaced within the rooftop unit. They had the parts in their vehicle and the air was on within a half an hour. My experience was positive and very straight-forward. I’m very happy with having the coverage from AHS and having the service done. It saved me from spending a lot of money.

I had a good experience with American Home Shield when I had them years ago. But I also had a bad experience and that was what prompted me to leave. But I figured I'd give them another try and I came back recently. I had submitted a claim for my built-in microwave combination oven over the phone and AHS had sent four different technicians to come and fix it. The second and the fourth contractors already recommended a replacement and yet, a fifth company called asking when they could come up and check the appliance. I was like, “Who are you?” American Home Shield didn’t even call and tell me anything.

I decided to give AHS a call because, at that point, four technicians could not figure it out. I was not about to let a fifth and a sixth one come out. When was the limit? Were they gonna replace it or fix it? Were they sending somebody that specializes only on this appliance? I asked them what was the protocol and the rep couldn’t answer me. Then she rep went, “Let me read the notes.” She said she just got the report from the last guy and it said “for replacement”. So they’re going to go ahead with that and contact me between 24 and 48 hours.

I also wasn’t satisfied with the third contractor who came out. He didn’t install the oven back to its original state and said that he needed somebody to help him get it in. And he went, "If anything goes wrong, then give me a call in two weeks and I'll come back and put it back on like perfect." The microwave was working when he left but roughly a week later, it started messing up again. So I called him but nobody answered. I decided to call AHS and have them send that contractor out or somebody else. AHS decided to send somebody else. I'm not a very happy customer at this time. But those things aside, my interactions with the representative when I filed the claim and with the contractors were good.

I tried to play it off at first and go, “Oh, maybe some clothes we washed before had left a residue or something in the machine", but then I noticed it more and more often and I thought it wasn't what we're putting the machine, it was something coming out of the machine. I contacted some people I know in the neighborhood that work on such things and they told me that it was a possible cause.

I then called American Home Shield to have someone look at it and a really nice guy from JTL Services came quickly and took care of it. He showed us that the transmission was the cause of the residue that was coming out. We took the unit out of the house and put it in the garage because my wife said that she was not gonna put our clothes in there. I had to go buy a new washing machine. Then, when the claim was turned in, I accepted the claim they had the work done and in exchange, they sent me money to go towards the purchase of the other washing machine. I then filled out the information on the new machine and sent it to AHS so that would be covered.

So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been positive. I submit my claims both online and over the phone, but it’s better to talk to a human being because sometimes the online form wants to specify the problem but sometimes I’d rather talk to somebody. Both are good, but it depends on what is going on. I had different experiences with different contractors. Some of them are generally good, although there was one lady that I didn’t like. She sent somebody here and they couldn’t find where the tenant was. They called back to let them come back so I can show her where it is, but she wasn’t nice.

It is the industry standard whereby they give us two to four hours of waiting time, which generally nobody likes. But so far, so good. However, an issue was not fixed and I reported it then AHS sent somebody else and they charged me for that. I didn't like that. I tried to get them to understand that if the issue was corrected initially, then the follow-up cost wouldn’t have happened. And it took them time before they reversed the charge. The American Home Shield rep scheduled the appointment and the ABM tech came out. I had a pleasant interaction with him. He came in and I asked him to take his shoes off and he did. He took the dryer apart, assessed it and told me what he needed. He said there was a problem with the pulley and the belt broke because the dryer didn't go completely around. So the dryer would start and just stay there. He ordered the part and said to give him a couple of days and then he came back and put the part in.

However, the initial repair with ABM didn't go well. The unit continued to spin but then after a couple of days, we noticed that the dryer wasn't cooling or heating up 100%. The dryer was still doing what it was doing but ABM said I had to call in another time because their tech said the dryer was fine when he left. Their tech said that there was nothing they could do and I didn’t have time to argue. So I rescheduled another appointment with American Home Shield and I had another contractor, A1, come out. It was another $75 but A1 worked on the dryer and switched out some coils on it and now the dryer seems to be working fine. American Home Shield did what they're supposed to do.

I called American Home Shield because of my pool pump. They dispatched someone who came out and said that he couldn’t access the pump to fix it. The gentleman was 60 to 65 so I told AHS that maybe because of his age, he didn't wanna try to climb down underneath the equipment to be able to access it. I also asked AHS to send someone else but they wouldn't send anybody out. AHS denied the claim saying they didn't have to pay for it if they couldn't access it. They also gave me 70 bucks for what they believed the part would cost. I was very disappointed with that but it was the fall of the year and I let it ride.

In the spring, I called a totally separate entity, not going through American Home Shield, for them to come, look, assess, and to find out how much it was gonna cost me to replace the pump. This guy from the independent company said that the gentleman who came over was lying about not being able to access the pump and he also said that all the past gentleman has to do is unhook something in the pump and the whole thing pulls forward. So with that, I called AHS back and I told them what happened. They agreed to open up a new ticket for the techs to come out and fix the pump, although I still had to pay another 70 bucks for them to come out to do that.

I had a similar experience with AHS trying to come to fix an air conditioning unit, which at this point, I plan to call an independent company to see if they can access the space for the part to see if this is the same kind of scenario. I also had a dryer go out. The techs came, fixed it and that was fine. Regarding the pool pump, AHS dispatched another company and the plumbers from that company were excellent. They assessed the pump, ordered the part and came back to fix it. The repair took a week to finish. I'm not canceling the warranty simply because the house is at a point where I'll still need the warranty, but I'm just a little iffy. I would recommend them to others but I would recommend them with cautions of that kind of thing.

The representative from American Home Shield assigned it to an account and said that they would email me the contact information and that as soon as I got it, I could call the provider and get a timeframe of how soon they could get out there. I said okay and half an hour later, I had the email. I called the provider and the receptionist was very prompt. The temperature was well over 100 degrees and she understood. She said they would have somebody out the next afternoon. I also told her that I had someone take a look at the air conditioner. A neighbor of mine used to be in an air conditioning business and he came up the attic, took a look at it and figured out what was probably wrong with it. So I said it wouldn't take their guy very long to verify the issue.

The next day, the fellow called me. Then he came out, took a look at the unit and said the issue was exactly what my neighbor had said. He ordered the part and it was ready two days later. But while he was there, he also said that the circuit board in the blower motor upstairs was freezing up. He disconnected that, took the motor out and hardwired it right into the unit. So that actually got the unit back up and functioning until we were able to get the part put in. The technician was very good at what he was doing and everything seems to be fine now. I was pleased with the service provider and their service. They kept their appointment and they gave me 30 minutes notice before they were gonna be there. Their reps were really polite and told me that they’d get it taken care of and that the contractor will be calling me shortly and they did. A field representative was sent and he took a look at the sump pump, then came back the next day to replace it. He was very knowledgeable about everything that was going on. I felt bad for him though because he had to crawl on his belly to get through my crawl space. But he had everything he needed to crawl through the crawl space. Since the repair, the sump pump is working and a lot quieter as well. Before, it would come on and I could hear it throughout almost my whole house.

I've been with a couple of different home warranties. They would sign me up for something, then they send their representative down and they would tell me that this isn't covered. They would say that if I want something on the policy, I would have to add this much more to my premium. It’s ridiculous. On the other hand, everything has been what AHS has said so far. Their service call fees are still a little high though. Their service calls are $100 and their premium is a little higher than what my mom is paying on the warranty for her house. My mom’s company’s service calls are $50. But I went with American Home Shield because my mom's company wanted the first year's payment upfront, which was about $500 and I didn't have that.

I was also getting a water filter and he said that he would show me how to flush the lime when I put my water filter in. He was very helpful and since the repair, the ice maker is working perfectly.

But recently, Delmarva Plumbing LLC was supposed to do plumbing work on my house. I put my request on Friday or Saturday and when they called, I had already gotten someone to look at the problem and I told them I didn't need their help anymore. Other than that, I’ve had American Home Shield for a few years now and they’ve always done a good job as far as getting me a contractor to take care of my situation.

Submitted a claim on 07/09/2018 for AC not cooling the house. The repair guy came and check thing out. He concluded: Found unit low on freon, freon and dye added numerous times, found leak in evap coil due to corrosion. Need to replace 4 ton horizontal R22 boxed evap coil with emergency drain pan and code upgrades. American Home Sheild called today 7/16/2018 and said the repairs are going to cost me over $ 2000.00. The reason was code changes and related expenses. The AC Repair Co: A-US Air Conditioning of Texas called and said it's going to cost me over $ 1700.00 for same reason. I called City of Irving and they said that there is no need for expenses that they claim. Talk about Highway Robbery. I am now looking into getting my attorney involved. This company is questionable to say the very least.

June 22 Refrig repair request made to AHS. Since then we have had the repair service out three times, 1st to diagnose, 2nd to replace board (+5 days) and 3rd to diagnose why the board failed and to say the refrigerator was not repairable. We have been purchasing dry ice at our own expense, experienced food loss, and now on 7/16 we are told that AHS needs a few days to decide if they will replace or buy out the refrigerator. So more dry ice, and more food loss, we will need to rent a refrigerator, and they said that none of which will be covered by their policy... Let me say this... When you buy a warranty from Sears, they cover food loss and rental until it is repaired. This is really poor service.

They take too long to assign your service request, every time! But they want their payment every month on time! Our A/C unit is out right now and in our area it is 100 degrees plus. I called in a request on 7/15/18 and it is the end of the day of 7/16/18 and it still states "Pending Assignment." I have a baby in the house! So I guess we will have to go to a motel, another added expense, on top of their service call fee of $75.00. I called them today and they said that it was in the hands of the "dispatch department" so, I ask for the number to call the dispatch dept. and they "conveniently" do not have that number (imagine that). We have had them for three years and it is the same thing every time. Really, the only complaint (so far) is the slow turn around on their request for service.

I live in a rental townhouse in Northern NJ. I had an appointment for a Thursday, and given a window from 8-12. After 11:00 am that was changed to 10-2. And then they just cancelled. So, instead of a missed half day and a fixed dryer, I lost an entire day of work and nothing is fixed. They wanted to reschedule for Friday which I could not do, so I called to reschedule the appointment. Their computer system was down so they took all my information and said they would call back. They didn’t call to reschedule but instead called Friday morning saying they were 5 minutes away for an appointment that was never made. I called back Monday to reschedule and they can’t get here until mid afternoon Thursday. So, I can take off another entire day from work. Quite honestly I’d find a local handyman you can count on to show up. Very dissatisfied with the entire experience.

Last year I needed a furnace repair. The first person they sent out said it's amazing my home hadn't blown up, since the furnace and 2 fireplaces had the same exit chimney (quote ~12k), the second said I'd need to install a side wall vent for the furnace (quote ~5k). I accepted the buy out for the repair of $250 (note that it cost $100 for their people to come out and they wanted to charge me for each). I hired a local furnace repair person, who pointed out that if you step outside there are clearly 3 flues coming up from the chimney, total repair $140, blown fuse. So I actually came out $10 ahead, but only because luckily what was wrong wasn't even close to what their idiot repair people said.

The experience was so bad that when I had a problem this year I didn't call them, so I realized I needed to cancel this service. When you call to cancel it disconnects you, and no one ever responded to my emails to their customer service email asking to cancel. Eventually I cancelled my credit card. They kept sending me emails that I was past due so I stayed on the phone for hours today figuring out how to get through (each person puts you on hold for 40 minutes). The cancel number is 800-858-1922 (finally got it from someone when I selected to update my credit card). They're trying to charge me a past due month + cancellation fee of $42. I'm attempting to dispute it but they refuse to escalate my call and said they don't care since I cancelled my account. Shame on realtors that would refer people to them.

I have had AHS for almost 3 years, I first received it when I purchased my home. Last year I used it when my garbage disposal broke, I had someone come out immediately, paid my $75, had it fixed several days later. I can't recall if I paid anything more but if I did, it must have been minimal since I don't remember. Just a week ago my water heater broke, I filed the claim on Sunday and thankfully someone was here by Monday morning to fix my water heater. The guy sat in his truck for about 30 minutes, came back with an estimate of $750 which is what I'd have to pay out of pocket, because they had to make "modifications". Fine. He also offered to call a water restoration company since my walls were likely wet, and so were the floors, he said it would just be a free estimate, so I said okay. The water restoration company came out and stated that the walls were extremely wet and they'd have to pull out shelves and my wet bar etc.

I work for an insurance company so I decided to file my claim before making any decisions on the restoration and drying. The plumber heard this and was very rude, and immediately said "well if you don't dry out your walls, that could cause a problem as the new water heater is leaning and could fall through". He went on to rant about how he wouldn't be liable, however I wish he would have mentioned this before saying I'd pay $750 out of pocket, and before he installed the new water heater!!!

He was very annoyed with us at this point, and he had to come back the next day, so I was afraid that he'd do something to break my water heater again. I have been on hold with AHS to tell them what kind of service they sent to my home. The next day I had ServPro come out to my home, the walls and floors were wet, yes, but they didn't have to tear anything off of my walls. Some companies are just out to get your money, and Blue Star Plumbing must receive some referral fee from American Water Damage, which explains why they'd be so annoyed with me and threaten that they wouldn't be liable. I can't believe AHS would send some garbage company out to their customers.
