The customer service I received from American Home Shield when I filed my claim online was fine. The only confusing thing was that they said that they would reach out to us about scheduling and we ended up getting a text the next day through the automated system. It just told us whenever the appointment time was gonna be. They didn't give us options but it worked out fine. The contractor was very quick and efficient and he got the issue fixed. Everything seems to be working fine since the repair. I would recommend American Home Shield.

We had an air conditioning go out and it wasn’t cooling the house so we submitted a claim to AHS online. The claims process was easy and the contractor was friendly. He worked around my schedule, came in, did his job and left. It was a great experience.

My air conditioning was not cooling. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and going through their online process was fine. Although Bella Heat & Air couldn’t come out for a couple more days after filing the claim, they got the problem fixed on their first visit. The contractors were also very good and helpful.

My AC wasn't cooling. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it over the phone through the automated system. The process was fine. Also, the tech who came over was great. He came out the next morning and took care of the AC. After the repair, everything has been good.

When the converter in the shower was leaking, I filed a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. Sometimes, it's a little complicated trying to go through their automated system but if I get a live customer service, it’s always a great experience. The representative I spoke with was very polite and professional. The plumber from Dave and Sons came out on the same day, and he was very good. He knew right what the problem was, changed the inside of the mechanism, and he was finished. Everything is working excellently since then, and so far, my experience with American Home Shield has been pleasant.

My wife submitted a claim to AHS over the phone because our light switches weren’t working. Everything was on time. We didn’t have to wait a while so it was convenient that they were able to get somebody out here for us in a good time that we needed them to. The contractor installed the new light switches and he also let us know what was going on and showed us the wiring in the house. He also gave us a lot of information on stuff that we didn’t know. He did a good job.

I had an AC issue last June. American Home Shield sent A1affordable heating and cooling and they addressed the issue well. But I had a service call come back because the pipe was leaking from the furnace that goes to my drain, so I had water in my basement and then, the air conditioner went out. I thought it was the furnace, so when I placed a service call to AHS, I said "Furnace" instead of "Air Conditioner."
The guy from West Michigan came out today said that it was the air conditioner and he didn't want to fix it. He also said that I needed to make another call and have a recall for A1 to come back. So, I had to still pay the $75 which I’m not happy about and the girl I had talked to said they couldn’t refund it. When I tried to call back and wanted to speak after the guy was there and wasn’t gonna fix anything, I was on hold saying the wait time was less than five minutes and then I got cut off, so I had to start all over again. And when I finally got back to where I was when I got cut off, they said I have an over 30-minute wait and I had to do a callback. It was frustrating.

I recently moved into the home which I just bought and didn’t have my box of keys. Dan from DNG Appliance was sent out by American Home Shield and he was jovial, nice and had a great personality. I’ve had American Home Shield for two years and I’ve enjoyed them perform so I would renew before the end of the month.

Our trash disposal was broken so it had to be replaced. I put in a request with American Home Shield over the phone and spoke to a very helpful, polite and professional rep. Then I requested a particular time for the contractor to come and they showed up on time. They were professional. I was running a bit late getting home and they waited outside for me to get here then they replaced the entire unit. And the service was very good. American Home Shield has been good for me.

The washing machine quit and AHS sent someone out. The contractor had gotten it fixed, but it quit again. My son called AHS and the new claim took a while because they had to review the claim before it. We were two weeks without a washing machine. I think it was due to the fact that it happened on the same appliance. They sent someone back out again. The contractor found out that the wiring harness they put in the washing machine was not heavy enough so they replaced it. Hopefully, we had gotten everything going. You see the ads on TV and the process is instant. It's not instant. Depending on what part of the country you live in, it takes two or three days to get somebody out there. Down in Missouri, it takes a couple of days. So far, our experience with American Home Shield has been good.

American Home Shield is a decent company with a very good online site. I've had very good experience with their contractors too. They are on time and professional. I've sent in simple claims online for the ice machine, the dishwasher and most recently for the pool filter. However, it took almost two weeks before it was repaired since the contractor had to get authorization from American Home Shield and then get the parts.

I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield as our refrigerator went out and navigating through their website was fairly easy. It took three days to get a contractor to the property. He was very polite. He told me exactly what he was doing and that the refrigerator has to be totally unloaded and should be defrosted manually for 48 hours before we put it back on.

We had a socket that looked like it had shorted out and caught fire, and that in turn knocked out the power in one of our guest bedrooms upstairs. I submitted a claim at American Home Shield online which was very nice for me to do without having to get on hold or do anything. The techs came out soon enough, and though we ended up having to push ‘em back on our own, they were quick so it was fine. Everything worked really well and I was really satisfied with the process.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, which I always do, for my Air Conditioner and it all went fast. They tried to get somebody that night because my elders live with me and my husband has a heart condition but they were unable to do that. So my dad stayed up most of the night watering down the air conditioner to keep it cool enough so that we could run it for 15 minutes before it shuts back off. And then, he would wait for about 10 minutes and water it down then let it run for 20 minutes until it again shuts off.
Eventually, AHS was able to schedule me for the next morning and the contractor from Troy Heating was very good. He went out to the backyard and addressed the problem quickly. He replaced a part of the air conditioner and put some insulation. He was polite and friendly and got the job done fast. The air conditioner has been working good now. I wish I could use Troy Heating often but AHS said they couldn’t because they had to be fair to everybody else. Nonetheless, if I had a bad experience, I’d tell them that the person has not been good inside my house so they would have to get somebody else. Overall, American Home Shield was able to get somebody out fast especially in emergency situations so I’ve been recommending them to everybody.

I've had various home warranties before and AHS is the first one that I'm very pleased with. Submitting the claim for the AC went smoothly and AHS sent an AC company that I've used before. The trade person called us in a timely manner. The contractors were very good and professional. They answered questions and explained things in layman's terms. They knew right away that the AC had an issue with the thermostat. They changed that out and the AC has been working great ever since.

The air conditioner had been on for a long time and never really cooling down the house. It’s an older unit, so I expected over the last couple of years, it just diminished. The coolant level eventually just drops and it’s been some years since we had recharged. I went online and submitted it. We usually just call in but the hold time is terrible. It was easy to do it online since it filters out unnecessary steps and it doesn’t allow you to click on a blender or something, so it’s good.
After I filed the claim, I asked the contractor to delay it because we weren’t gonna be in town. And then I called them and said we are. I had a child that was sick, so then I was home. So they were super accommodating. It was the owner who came out but it was scheduled by one of his dudes. It was great. The owner was super-efficient and very thorough. He told me that the air conditioning unit was still good and asked me to check it out in a month. If I notice a significant change, then he would come back and recheck it. Otherwise, it’s like a helium balloon and stuff comes out. He also told me that it can’t be justified putting in a new system if it takes years for it to drop in pressure and that was fine.
We’ve had American Home Shield since 2001 in a home in California and here. And then we just recently sold that home. So, we’ve had it in Lincoln for 6 years and we’ve had it in Bakersfield up until this last year. When we released our house, I told them the warranty needed to be cancelled. And it took four months for them to acknowledge and the policy was no longer valid because it’s no longer in my name. I kept contacting a representative and he said it he would put it on a note and it usually takes 30 days. I got notices in the mail and my email and since I don’t own the property anymore, it was an invalid contract. I’m not gonna pay for a contract for some other home. But other than that, AHS has treated us so well.
Over time, I noticed that it has been longer and longer to wait on the line because they simply don’t have as many call centers anymore, which was logical. Since that one experience when I told them to stop sending me notices because I’m not their client anymore, I wanna stay their client. I told the representative that I wanted to give them my business, but now I’m annoyed. We still had another contract and I told him not to touch that one but get rid of the one in California. He said he was doing it right then and that was what the last five people said. But it was fine and I was not angry enough to drop them as a consumer. American Home Shield has been excellent.
It’s probably Friday at 4:00 every time I called and they were like, “Well, I did my job. I’m gonna go home”, and I don’t blame people for that. But in the end, I would always say that it should be noted. When they say that it was being recorded, I would tell them that was good and to do that because that was evidence of a conversation and they don’t have to start from square one every time. It’s awesome. I literally tell people that I don’t bother with another company. There were months when I sat there and thought about paying my AHS bill because we need it and I looked back and thought about why we pay for it. American Home Shield has never let us down. They have always done what they say they were gonna do and that is the truth.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a year and everyone they sent out were good and I liked them. AHS sends out email newsletters talking about doing different things for people. They sent out something about having the AC checked before summer so I called and scheduled for someone to come and check it. When the person came, he told me that they were just looking if I have a problem and they don’t do tune-ups. It would have been nice if I had known that. I indicated what I wanted to have done, and still, no one told me that they don’t do that. AHS need to be clear that even though they recommend you get a tune-up, they don’t cover it. They could have been more communicative about what they cover and what they don't. But since the repairs, the appliance and my other claims are working fine.

The spinner on my dryer stopped working. A piece of clothing dropped through the lint and got caught in the motor. I was about to call in to file a claim but I went online to find American Home Shield’s actual number. Then when I logged and created an account, it had right there, “File complaint” so filing a claim was pretty easy. Once I submitted the claim, they called me within about an hour. Then the technician came out in about three days which was actually early. He was very knowledgeable and he was done with the special repair in 30 minutes. I'm glad that the AHS process was very simple and I'm gonna keep this going.

We had a plumbing issue and we submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield. A 50-year-old copper drain pipe coming out of the sink upstairs had a leak in it. The plumbers that were sent were able to determine what the problem was and they got it taken care of. And then after that, they found there was the cast iron piece coming out of the drain that was a leak and they repaired that. But it’s been almost a month and they still haven’t repaired the drywall so I’ve got a big hole in my ceiling.
When I called two weeks after they had finished the plumbing issue up, they said the plumber neglected to get the measurements they needed for the drywall guy to come back and repair the drywall. They sent a guy over to get the measurements a couple weeks ago. And if they were gonna schedule it, they never let me know because I haven’t heard anything back since the guy came in and got measurements. Otherwise, they did a good job on the plumbing. AHS is a good service but the speed at which they’re getting it finished up is another thing. I don’t care if it takes a little while in their schedule and they’re behind as long as I know what’s going on.

I had a nice and quick experience when I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The claim was for our central AC problem. Their website was easy to navigate. However, when the contractor came, he was not professional and I was not sure if he did the repair correctly. We added some refrigerant but even after adding the refrigerant, the AC wasn’t as cold as it was. He said that it would take time to catch up but it never did. But he got the job done. However, the AC was better than it was before which wasn’t blowing cold air, but it was not as cold as it should be. They should have added more refrigerant. But, my experience with AHS has been good and useful.

There was an issue with my dishwasher and the Universal Repairs guy that American Home Shield sent said that there was something wrong with the agitator. It’s the part where the water goes out of and he said that I need to have that part. There was also an issue with my microwave oven and the tech told me that it was the door on my microwave. He took pictures of the part when you close the door and the part when you open the door itself. He told me that I needed the piece inside the microwave and not the door itself. So I said okay.
When the guy came back, I thought he was coming with both parts. But it turned out that the part on the inside of the microwave was broken and that I also needed a new door. But he didn't have the door there for me at that time and it would take another week to arrive. I had to wait another week for the right dishwasher piece and the door for the microwave to arrive. I only use my dishwasher on Sundays or holidays because that's when I mostly had company over, and the tech came back right in time for the holidays. Even though I had to wait an extra week, everything is working fine now. The dishwasher and the microwave got fixed.

I recommend everybody to get a home warranty and I’ve had American Home Shield since I had my house in 2001. I left them at one point when I was at another house because I wasn’t happy with their customer service. I paid all that money and I never did a claim then when I did, they wanted to tell me that they won't cover my AC because it was rusted. But all AC units will rust if they've been at a house for 50 years. I was very unhappy with that so I went with another company but I wasn’t happy with them either. So I came back to American Home Shield after asking a lot of questions. They are much better now and they have been easy to work with so far.
I called AHS for my AC and they sent a contractor out. First, they attempted to repair the AC unit but it still wasn’t blowing. When the tech came back, he said the motor was gone at that point. Then they notified AHS that the AC unit was not repairable. The contractor was good and also quick in diagnosing the issue. We weren't without air for too long. But when you sign your own contractor, American Home Shield would send you a check for partial and it took five days for them to call back to let me know about that. I was anxious because we didn’t have air and it was so hot here in Georgia. I kept calling them until they finally did the numbers. But that aside, everything was good.

So this company has really come in handy and I'm very happy with my experience. When the washing machine went out recently, I submitted a claim over the phone and it was easy. I had a claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning and the people who came out were here for 30 minutes. They looked up in the attic and then they went to the back. They asked if my air conditioner was on. When I said no, they asked me to turn it on and they started filling it with Freon. When I asked what made the Freon leak out, they told me the caps were loose.
They came on a Monday and by Thursday, it was hot again. So I called AHS and they told me that as their policy, they can't send somebody out unless it's 105 or greater. I then called the company that came out before and told them that it was still hot in here. They said that I had to call AHS so I did and made the request. I then called the company again to ask when they can come out and they said not until Tuesday. So I had to wait the whole weekend. And then I called Monday to make sure they were coming on Tuesday. The company said they received the report from AHS the night before Tuesday so they can't come out. I insisted that it was the second report and that they told me last week that they would come first thing Tuesday morning.
Eventually, they were able to set me for Tuesday as the last appointment. They sent an older guy and I told him that they said they replaced the caps. So he called the kid that came out before and he said that it was what he thought where the leak was. But he didn't troubleshoot at all. The second guy did the troubleshooting and he was out here for an hour and a half in the heat. He found that the hole was right in the middle of the air conditioner where something was rubbing against it and so he had to repair the pipe and it's been cool since then.
Good morning Brenda,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience to have the air conditioner repaired. I am glad to hear that the lead technician was able to pinpoint the leak and get the issue resolved. I would be glad to speak with you and address and remaining concerns.

I call the company and was informed the company did not services the vent that I have.
I called American Home Shield again and spoke with a third representative making sure the company they subjected would be able to work on the vent. After spending 15 mins giving the name of the vent and the spelling I ask to speak to a supervisor. The representative ask why did I want to speak to a supervisor? I was placed on hold about 15 mins and asked what the problem was. I assured them the issue I wanted to discuss with management had nothing to do with them. Finally I asked for the names for the supervisor as well as the regional manager. I was placed on hold again for 30 mins.
I called again and the same thing happen, placed on hold. We've been paying into AHS for two years without requesting service. We finally attempted to utilize the plan and made two requests which were scheduled by local contractors quickly. That was great, and if the whole process went like that, this would be a very different review; however, neither issue has been resolved, and AHS isn't exactly what I'd describe as "accessible". I'm currently on hold and have been for more than an hour and a half, despite speaking to two employees along the way (neither of them could tell me the status or time frame on our microwave - seems like they should be able to look at a computer screen and tell me next steps). It's amazing how easily AHS can deduct monthly fees from our bank account, but they can't answer fairly simple questions. I just wanted to know what happens next. Ugh.

AHS sent a contractor to our home in February 2018 to fix our AC. The contractor replaced the capacitor and we paid $455 out of pocket for freon. A yearly maintenance company that we paid for came out to clean the condenser and discovered that not only is the unit leaking freon but it freezes up when turned on. We reported this to AHS and they sent another contractor from a different company this time. This contractor made me aware that the guy that came out in February did a poor job and did not properly diagnose the problem.
Long story short, he replaced a few things on the unit but to do that, he had to dump the entire freon. We paid again for freon and this time, $525. I spoke with authorization department and a manager named Shamika and made them aware that this is all the same problem from February and we should not have to pay for freon and another service call fee of $75. They could care less and speaking to them was a waste of time. I have reported them to BBB and will give them a bad review every chance I get. I am also considering every option to have that $525 and service call fee refunded. I wish I could give them a zero.
Updated on 08/31/2018: This is regarding my AC unit. AHS has been giving me the runaround and they have not been able to diagnose my unit since February 2018. They insisted I pay for Refrigerant after they changed the dryer and filter inside the condenser which I did. My AC is still freezing and the repairs did not correct this problem. They have refused to give me a refund on that and have sent every technician to my house. Once they cannot diagnose the problem, they pass the buck and tell me they need a second opinion. This is more like the 10th opinion now. Some technicians they sent over will lie and tell me they will change the compressor and others the evaporator coil only for me to find out they have not sent any diagnosis to AHS. I have complained numerous times but no one seems to care.
My first bad review that I gave them here promoted a call from their so called social media department. The person assigned to me called to get different technicians pretty much and all of a sudden she went on vacation and has been on it ever since. I feel like they called me just so that I will not continue to give them bad reviews. This is an update to my previous review and things are worse now. I don’t understand how I have a home warranty company and my AC has been freezing all summer which leaves my house with little to no air, I paid $455 for refrigerant in February and $525 in July.
Stay away from this company if you can. I have paid them for a good number of months and will make sure that they fix my unit no matter how long it takes. All they care about is getting your money and maybe you will get frustrated and cancel the service. Well, I will make sure all that money I have paid is put to use. Stay away from them and find a home warranty company that will do what they say and care enough to get reliable and experienced people working for them.

I requested repairs for my refrigerator on June 22, 2018. On the 25th, serviceman advice me that my compressor was out. The requisition was not submitted until the 29th. First of all, whoever was responsible for submitting the requisition in a timely manner certainly should have made the request for order the same business day. Second, AHS should have immediately approved the order and I should have had been able to use my refrigerator for my 4th of July party! Instead, it's now the 9th day of July, and I’m still without my refrigerator.
I worked 40 years at post office, so no one can tell me how long it takes for delivery. There was enough time for my compressor to go around the world twice, therefore, the error is with the company’s. If AHS is so backed up with requests, then hire more staff to approve funding the parts since you increase your yearly fees every year. Secondly, if your contractor is overwhelmed with calls, add another company to serve the customers that you promised speedy service to. As far as the contractor waiting 12 days for a part, that’s simply lousy managing. You’re supposed to stock up on parts that are proven to break frequently. I’m two seconds from finding a new company after this and I’ve already paid my service fee!

Contractor & AHS do not follow up on status and I call them every 4 days to talk to a new representative whom I have to explain the entire problem to every time. The dryer part is available in any local store so I know that it is just poor management due to which I have this inoperational dryer. Very frustrated with the service. After 45 minutes on the phone and more than 30 minutes of those being kept on hold, I was told the authorization dept didn't want to take my call because the tech had not send in a detailed email regarding the matter and as of right there wasn't anything to help. They said, they contacted the tech and told him to email the claim in details which will be tomorrow. Why not today? And why hasn't anybody told the tech that the description wasn't detailed enough? Why hasn't anybody update me, the consumer, in any way or form? Nobody knows!!!
When asked to speak to a manager and again being put on hold, I was told no manager was available to take my call. It is middle of July, with heat waves and what not, and there is no sense of urgency to help out a customer. This is my first ever claim and I can't believe the customer service I am receiving. I, too, signed up because of their online reviews so I am hoping this is one off and they make it right soon but as of right now, I am beyond upset and frustrated!!!

I bought my place two years ago and was gifted the first year of AHS coverage. My place is 15 years old, with all original appliances, which is part of the reason that I decided to get a home warranty. I hadn't needed to use the warranty until recently when my A/C compressor was struggling to keep up with cooling the 100-degree heat. I submitted a claim online which is an extremely easy process. They almost immediately sent me a text confirmation of the contractor that would be doing the work. When they came over, all was good. They diagnosed the problem and explained the situation. I was told that it would take a few days to order and receive the compressor, and then another few days for the installation. What I was surprised to find out through a friend that is a licensed HVAC technician is that my compressor is pretty common, and should be readily available in most warehouses. That's where one of my AHS frustrations come in.
Next, I called AHS, was placed on hold with their irritating customer service people, transferred to another holding queue, re-explained the issue, and again put on hold. The third time, the automated hold message indicated that the expected wait time was over an hour. I'd recommend that AHS take a queue from many banks and retailers that have a call-back function. Also, I've noticed is that AHS barely pays the contractors, so their motivation to complete an AHS claim isn't a priority. It also incentivizes the contractor to include "add-on fees," that AHS won't cover. One example from my situation: the HVAC contractor says they'll install the new compressor but will need to charge a $220 "pipe modification fee" in order to install it.
I spoke with my HVAC friend and he stated that the pipe modification fee is just in case the connections on the new compressor are in a different location as the connections on the old compressor. He admitted that it was a BS fee. To me, if AHS is going to claim that they cover the installation of the compressor, they should cover the entire installation to ensure my system is properly working as it was prior to the unit malfunctioning.
One nice thing is that they offer a cash-payout option. They will pay you the value for which they can get the malfunctioning part installed. I was offered roughly $480. They must have a hell of a deal with the compressor manufacturer, because good luck finding a compressor for anywhere near that. Lastly, AHS needs to implement some type of control to limit the costs that contractors charge. One easy example is that R-22 (Freon coolant) is a huge expense when installing these. My contractor is quoting roughly $160 per pound. If you know of any HVAC contractors, I'd recommend you ask them how much they can buy a container of R-22 for. It's certainly nowhere near $160/lb. It's actually much closer to $15-16/lb. TL/DR: I'm not sure if it's AHS or home warranties in general, but I've been less than impressed.

So on the 11th of June I contacted AHS since my fridge stopped working. It took a week to finally get a technician from Valley Wide Repair to come out and look at it. They informed me that they would need to replace a motherboard. It took them an two weeks to get the parts and finally come back out to replace them, mind you this is after me calling them to find out what was going on. The next day when it still wasn’t working I contact both AHS and Valley Wide Repair and was informed they would have to come back out. They NEVER did. A week after they informed me this. I contacted them back to find out what was going I. And they said that the warranty company informed them that the service request was sent to another company... It wasn’t.
28 days has passed so far. After contacting them I finally after 45 minutes got a hold of someone at AHS and was informed that the appliance repair company called to inform them that they could repair it. This is only after I contacted them. I am now waiting in another company to come out in another week to try and fix my fridge. So two appliance companies and over a month to fix one fridge. Do your research and DO NOT use AHS. They align themselves with shady rip off appliance companies who never communicate with their clients and provide HORRIBLE customer service. I almost feel that it would have been better to pay out of pocket for a new fridge than go through this hassle.

Our air conditioner which caters to 2/3rd floor where all bedrooms are has not been working for almost 3 weeks. It took almost one week for a technician to come by. Not to mention he was brand new. We got authorization to use our own service technician. Both provided reports and said the unit had to be replaced. To date we have no resolution. No one calls back. With 90+ temps, not sure these guys even understand customer service. Very disappointed.
Updated on 07/10/2018: I raised a complaint on this portal against AHS, got a response from the company saying they'll call back to resolve. No response yet. Call the toll free #, their supervisor is on vacation and when he/she comes back from vacation I'll receive a call. I'm truly lost at this service and not sure how to proceed. Worst possible company to work with.
Good morning Shobha,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the air conditioner system repaired. Also, per the outside authorization diagnosis I am aware that they have deemed the unit to be replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and get this resolved.

Somebody then called me from the place that actually serviced my air conditioner and they met me the next day. The contractor came in and then looked at the situation. He assessed and corrected it and off he went. Having a warranty on the property is like having life insurance and it's worth every penny.

When we bought our house, we had American Home Shield for a year. I really liked their service and decided to have it for the warranty. So I started back up with them in February after a couple of months of not having the warranty. My AC stopped working intermittently in the summer so we recently submitted a claim online. Majestic Custom, the contractor they sent out, was great. They came out three times to look at the AC but they weren’t able to repair it. Now we’re waiting for them to get the condenser and for them to come back out to replace it. We’ve referred American Home Shield to several people. We feel like their service, quality and prices are all really great and we have enjoyed having them.

I had a plumbing claim and it was a nightmare when I submitted it. American Home Shield said my policy wasn’t active and it took four days of argument with them on the phone which in return damaged our home because we couldn’t get a plumber out for four days. Our floors got ruined due to the delay. Even so, the reps were very helpful. They were trying to figure out why my policy was showing up as inactive. They were checking with people and doing whatever they could do in the background, but they just couldn’t get it to allow us to put a ticket in. It was a system error. And then the techs who came out were great and I was very pleased. After the repair, everything has been working fine.

It's a good idea to have AHS. I'm glad I have them, but I have been having a struggle with communication. The very first time we called AHS they told us the pump was covered and then the next day they said that it was not covered because it was a grinder pump. In my opinion, that was negative because I was told one thing and then it wasn't.
Then we called for both the central air and the wall unit. They were not keeping up at all. We couldn't get the temperature under 78 and the AC was running and running. That was when I said we needed to have somebody come out and look at it. The tech came out the first time and said that it looked like it was running fine. He also said that the wall unit was not covered by AHS so he didn't want to look at it because we'd have to pay him. He gave my husband a couple suggestions for cooling the house. One was an attic fan above our thermostat, but he said we need to close up that opening. We just nailed something over it and put some insulation and said we'll try that. It helped a little, but it still wasn't keeping up, so I had to call back. So, they sent the tech out again.
The second time, my husband was there. He was a maintenance guy, so he knows some of this stuff. He said that the evaporator coil should be hot, but it's not. The tech realized that he had missed something and admitted he was wrong. He needed to add a pound of Freon. He put the Freon in and billed us for what AHS did not pay. Personally, I thought he should not have billed us because he didn't fix it the first time and we had to wait two or three more days.
Then I called Monday to have them come back out because the wall unit wasn't working and it needed to be fixed. It cools for a while, and then it shuts off. And it might not come back on for a really long time and by then it's all hot in there again. The lady who took my call was very pleasant and said she will have them come back out and there won't be an extra fee. I said okay. I then received a call from the contractor and she said they told AHS multiple times that they do not service those. I said let them know again. Last night, I went online to see if my service call was still sitting there, but the entire service call was gone. And the wall unit was taken off of that initial call. No one called me to tell me they were gonna get me a different contractor. It was aggravating to have to call back again last night to reinstate the service call. I'm a little frustrated with that.

The claims process at AHS takes a while and I feel like it’s always a weekend when I’ve had to submit a claim or getting close to the weekends. So I just expect it to be the following week. But the people I spoke over the phone were polite, pleasant and answered my questions. I received an email from them shortly after I made the call, saying that I’ll be hearing from whatever company within 24 hours. And I did. I got a call from a company saying that they would be here between the hours of 11 and 4 on that following day or whatever day it was. And they were here a few minutes before 11.
I had run out and was trying to run back here from a doctor’s appointment to make sure I was here by 11. And I got a text that they were en-route and I could follow the text to see the map to see where they were coming from. The gentlemen that came set my mind at ease that it was not anything major. They checked it out, changed the filters and were on their way. My air conditioner has been great since they left. I lived in California and I’ve been here 10 years. I’ve had AHS my entire 10 years of being here plus another seven years in California and I've had no complaints.

My tenant called to tell me that the air conditioner was not working. I contacted American Home Shield that Friday, paid whatever the fee was for that and they scheduled an appointment for somebody to come out the subsequent Tuesday. They troubleshot it, let me know that it was going to be a compressor and that they ordered the parts. Then I had to pay to have the coolant placed in it with a discount. It took about 10 days to complete the service call. I have an issue with its timeliness. During the summer, there are probably a lot of phone calls for people experiencing cooling problems. From a landlord's perspective, if my tenant calls me on Friday the 1st and I supply them with air conditioning on the 12th, that's a long time during summer to go without air conditioning. So I have to then try to compensate them in some fashion to mitigate how hot it may be in the house.
With AHS, whenever a call is placed on a Friday, the soonest somebody could get out here would be the subsequent Tuesday because there's a weekend policy. That’s a little disheartening because there should be a type of allowance for accident circumstances and have somebody come out for the weekend. No AC during the summer is an accident circumstance. Now I'm compensating my tenant. It's just fair since he had no AC for the first 10 days of June. I wouldn't want to pay a full month's rent either. I understand American Home Shield’s policy. But there should be a system though where I can pay more to get the service out within 24 to 72 hours. I would pay more upfront to have a happy tenant as opposed to telling a tenant, "Hey, I can't do anything about it. It's their policy."

The locking mechanism on my dishwasher broke and had totally fallen off. I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. Thereafter, Pender Enterprises called me to set up an appointment. The tech came and I showed him what the problem was. I gave him the piece and thought maybe he could use it but he couldn’t. Still, he did what he said he would, ordered the part, came back and put it on.
However, I've had issues with some of the other contractors. The one who did the plumbing had to come out about three times before they had finally fixed the leaking sink. First, the contractor said the garbage disposal wasn’t hooked up, but I didn’t believe that. Still, I paid for the fixing of the leak. He came out again and didn’t fix it right. It kept leaking. I called and said that I understood they want to get paid, but somebody needed to figure out why this thing is still leaking. The contractor came out and fixed a piece in the sink. When they told me I had to pay again, I said no and that I had already paid for that twice. Despite this, AHS has been really good and for the most part, they contact me right away. They just need to pay attention when it comes to water issues.

I was previously with OneGuard and I was looking for something a little more affordable and had a different break down in the plans. I got American Home Shield and I've been with them for five months. I submit my claims over the phone. I have the phone number handy, so it’s an easy thing to do. But if I have any issues and I'm trying to resolve it, it’s like I never get anywhere. I have to always go to a person because the phone automated person is not gonna give me an update on the claim when I’m having problems.
I had a claim for my pool water pump and it was a complete disaster. When I first put the ticket in, SunBright Pools came out. The guy submitted the ticket and AHS called me to let me know that nothing was gonna be covered. The rep said that the water pressure wasn't gonna be covered which was interesting because the tech told us it was going to be completely covered by AHS. So, they put a request in to talk with the company itself to get a clarification on their report. There was communication back and forth and over three weeks went by without any resolution. I called and I was super, super frustrated and upset. Every few days I would just call and ask if they've heard anything because no one had contacted me. They kept putting notes saying that they were gonna contact me when they hear back from SunBright Pools, but no one did.
My pool pump was not working correctly at this time and the pool was getting greener and greener. If something else breaks in my pool because it’s not working properly then that’s gonna be an even bigger problem. And we’re talking more financial issues either on my part or on Home Shield. That would be creating a larger problem. Ultimately, I decided to go to an outside company and have my pool drained, refilled, and started fresh because at that point I didn’t have any more time to wait on fixing the problem.
Then, I happened to get in touch with a rep from AHS and she was the first one who finally said, “I will do something about this.” And we ended up putting a ticket to have somebody else come out. The new company came out within 48 hours and they were great. The guy said it was a simple fix and he sent the report in. And in 48 hours, he was back out there, changed the parts, and it was done. It was so straightforward and so simple, and that was what was so frustrating about it to begin with because if it was so straightforward and simple, then I don’t know why it took over a month. It was a horrible experience and I was almost ready to just switch warranty companies from a jump.
My last experience though was beneficial. I submitted a claim for my water heater over the computer and somebody came out. We initially consulted a plumber and it ended up being an electrical problem. Then, they consulted an electrician and that ended up being a good thing that they required us to go that route. They initially tried to charge us a second time even though it was the same incident so I had to call and have them correct it. But other than that, that went much smoother.
I still have a little bit of a sour taste with my initial experience. It was my very first claim. In the previous two years I own my house, I submitted two tickets total with my previous warranty company that wasn’t a big deal and off the jump I submit one and it was horrible. AHS requires extra work on the consumers part to get the task completed.

We had just bought a new house and the house came with a refrigerator that had an ice maker on the top and an ice maker in the bottom. One of the ice makers wouldn't stop making ice and the other ice maker didn't make ice at all, so my husband told me to get a hold of American Home Shield and have them come out and look at the ice makers. The parts were ordered for the top and the bottom, but we haven't seen one of the parts come in the mail, and it has been a couple of weeks now. Whoever was supposed to come out and fix the part didn't order one of them, so we're still waiting for the service to be finished.
Back in 2008, it turned out that our air conditioner was not cooling the house adequately and it was because that the air conditioner was not the right size for that size of the house. It meant that American Home Shield had to at least replace the units to the state minimum, but we had the option to buy up if we wanted to. I liked the fact that they gave that option and that they were willing to cover up the X amount. And if I wanted to buy more, that was fine. I just had to pay the difference. I love American Home Shield's program, so I got it on two of my properties now. We're keeping our old house and I'm keeping my American Home Shield on that house. I have recommended their program to other home buyers and I've told my family members when they bought houses as well.

I had a great experience during the phone call. When I had a disposal problem, Pipe Down Services came out and it was the first time that I got to be the first appointment of an appointment window, so that was very exciting. Their people were on time and they even had a little tracking app that showed me exactly where their car was in the drive. It was creepy but it worked. Pipe Down’s people were professional and courteous. They took a look at the garbage disposal and told us that they needed to replace it because it had a giant crack in it.
We also asked for a dishwasher service because when we ran our dishwasher after the disposal broke, it threw up stuff through the disposal. It sounded like it was the disposal that was causing the dishwasher problem. But after the garbage disposal was fixed, I called AHS to cancel the dishwasher appointment. American Home Shield was supposed to be open 325 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day when a customer has an issue to call. However, on Memorial Day, the phone rang and rang for 10 minutes and nobody answered. My air conditioner went out. The temperature was about 100s in Illinois at that time and I have long-haired Pekingese. I had to call somebody to come and I paid $400 out of my pocket for the air conditioner. The caps were leaking and they had to replace the seals on the cap.
I tried to get the money back from AHS and they said that they wouldn’t do that. I told them that nobody was answering when I was calling. We had to schedule an appointment anyway and AHS would have somebody come out and look at the air conditioner. When I don’t have an air conditioner, a heater or a refrigerator, those are emergencies and those were things I could not wait on.
I had AHS come out for my washer, too. And for repairs like the washer, we could wait. But it was terrible to get anybody to be scheduled. I’m a nurse and my husband’s an electrician so we work terrible hours, and it’s tough to get a hold of somebody right away so we could schedule a time on our days off. But when we call them and the next day’s our day off, they don’t even call until the next day. It was crazy that the guy they called out to do the charging on our air, Allen Cooling and Heating, is open 24 hours a day so it was not like they couldn’t get somebody to come. They just get who they want to come, when they want them to come.
It used to be not that bad but lately, it’s been getting that way and when we asked for a manager since we were so upset, the rep wouldn’t give us the manager. Finally, after 15 minutes of arguing on the phone, he got a manager on the phone. The manager told us to send our reimbursement request to an email address and they would see what they could do. However, we got a letter that they couldn’t do anything for us. The contractors were fine but I’m very unhappy with AHS so I’ve been looking at a few other ones as they even offer less. Also, we pay so much for deductibles. And if someone would ask me about AHS, I would tell them that there are other ones to choose from. We’ve had nothing but trouble with AHS and that was ridiculous.

The people that came to the home were real busy. They go up into our attic and looked at the AC unit. There was a part of it that was up there, a part of it outside. And then they said that they were gonna have to order a part. So we’re still waiting on the part. They said they were gonna be back here within about five days and it’s probably been 10 to 15 days now.
My husband is also upset about the ice maker, the dispenser part of it. He called AHS and said it wasn’t working. The contractor had to order a part and they put the part in. It lasted for a few times, maybe five days worth and then it quit. My husband called again and the contractor said that they couldn’t fix it. My husband said, “Should I get American Shield to figure out something?” They said no and American Shield would call him. It’s been about two weeks now and they haven’t called about that. I've been with American Home Shield for eight years now and they've been fine. However, lately, the first contractors always seem not to be a 100%. I currently got a replacement for my oven. The guy said that he could come so I stayed home for work, but he didn’t show on time. He called back later that evening and asked if he could come by tomorrow. I told him he had to come before a certain time because I had other plans. We agreed that we did not need him to come out and that he could just order the part. That has been two weeks ago. I had to call right before the 4th and the guy who answered the phone said that they were expecting the part on Thursday or Friday. But I still haven’t heard from them, so the contractors are a little sketchy because communication is more important to me than anything else.
Nonetheless, I’ve given recommendations to my Pastor, to people that worked for me within the job, and every one of my juju guys. No less than five people that worked for me use American Home Shield. People within my church has used American Home Shield because the overall value of the service is great. It’s just sometimes we get a contractor that doesn’t live up to the standards that we were expecting so I do my due diligence and stay on them to make sure things get done. And if I have a problem, I call American Home Shield and they take care of it.

My realtor got me American Home Shield as my home warranty, and I've been with AHS since November. When some of the electrical outlets were not working in our home, I filed a claim to them online then a guy came out and fixed it right on the spot. The contractor was very professional and they were there when they were supposed to be there. The guy checked everything over in the house even though we knew both of the other outlets worked. He was willing to go through them to make sure that every single outlet in the house worked.
However, the past claim that I had was terrible and it took me about a month to get my AC fixed. My house was at 99 degrees and it was awful. They had a guy come out, and evidently what he wrote on our ticket was completely different from what American Home Shield said that happened. The guy indicated that we should get a new unit because it would be cheaper to get a new one rather than putting in nine pounds of Freon.
My husband was ready to go with that but American Home Shield didn't wanna do it because they said that they were just gonna put the Freon in. But my husband said he won't pay that amount of money when he could just get a new unit for $200 more our cost. Still, American Home Shield didn’t wanna do that so they sent out a second opinion. The contractor for the second opinion came out and said that I can just put some Freon in and do a leak seal. Then it took a week for them to get back to us to approve that to happen, even though my husband was not very happy still. We also needed a thermostat and when they came out to fix the issue, they did not bring one.
Every time this company comes out, they would give us a four-hour window which was fine, but they never show up till an hour after the window had already passed. I just finished this issue two days ago, when I had them out. They had to come out twice ‘cause the guy who put in the new thermostat hooked one of the wires wrongly which made it 99 degrees in my house, then we had to wait until the next business day. My husband called the owner and then the owner came out with that guy. We found out the leak seal and the Freon wasn’t put in right. It looked like some rookie guy had come out and it was mind-boggling to say the least.
My husband and I were not very happy. I had to give up four days to wait on these people who showed up on their own time. The turnaround took 30 days so it caused us money ‘cause it’s a rental home for us and it was costing us $4100 each week ‘cause we can’t put people there if our ACs are not working. And if I will be asked about American Home Shield, I'll tell them that they're not a company they wanna work with.

He took my input, which I felt was appreciated. The dishwasher is irreparable so we have to replace it. American Home Shield will cover it if we want to choose a lower-end model. But if we wanted to get an upper-end model, because our kitchen is all high-end appliances, then they would give us the credit towards another dishwasher. And that seems to be a reasonable adjustment.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a plumbing issue and it was very easy to do. The customer service reps were excellent. The contractors were great too an they came out the next day. I requested that they take a look at the problem and see what it needed. They had to order a water heater. I thought they could pick it up here locally at my Lowe's and bring the part back and put it in. But instead, they had to get it from their supplier which took about six days. I wasn't happy about that part. Other than that, everything else was great and there are no more issues.

I submitted a claim for a couple of electrical issues my tenant complained about. I called it in and I talked to somebody who did the ticket for me. A company then came out and told my tenants that they would be back in a week. However, when I followed up, I found out that American Home Shield does not cover ceilings fans. So I have to go with another contractor and pay out of pocket. But, even if there are things AHS does not cover, they're very responsive. I've been with them for a while now and I have them on a few of my properties. I've already told one of my friends who was looking for a home warranty provider to go with them. I'm happy with them.

I had electrical issues with the doorbell and the light in the kitchen so I called in a claim to American Home Shield. They had Rickards Electrical Service right out but I had a doctor’s appointment so I had to reschedule with the electrician and they were able to accommodate my schedule. When the electrician Kyle came, he fixed the light in the dining room and it turned out that the batteries of the doorbell went dead. He was excellent and professional. He even cleaned up everything afterward. And if they were having to enlarge a hole, they vacuumed up. They made sure it was absolutely spotless, and I appreciated that. Also, I recommend Kyle to anybody.

We had a problem with our air conditioning and the contractor sent out by American Home Shield have been out here a couple of times. They worked on it and we thought it was fixed, but it’s not. So I called AHS again and the contractors are supposed to be coming back sometime Friday. I wish they can come earlier, but they said they didn’t have an appointment. And if they didn’t come Friday, they have to come the 16th.
So far, the contractor couldn't seem to get our air conditioning working. They put two compressors out there and it's still not fixed. Since we pay every time they come, we’re not going to do it anymore. We shouldn’t be paying anything if it's not fixed. While AHS is trying, they don't understand that it's really hot and we’re without air. We have to sleep in one place in the house because the window unit is not all over. It's been taking too long to get the problem taken care of. So until our AC gets fixed, I'm dissatisfied with my experience at this time.

I've used American Home Shield twice. The AC issue was a good experience. It happened when I have only been in the house for weeks and my AC wasn’t blowing cold air. I opened the case with AHS and they assigned it immediately to an AC tech. The third party calls me that same day and scheduled service the following Monday. The contractor came and he fixed the compressor. He had the part needed and replaced the part in the air conditioner, and then it was done. It was perfect and I hope I have nothing else. I didn’t wanna buy a lemon, but I also don’t wanna have to go through any of that again.
On the other hand, I had a very bad experience with my refrigerator once when I had only been in the house for about five weeks. My refrigerator stopped cooling and it was easy to open a case with AHS for that. They assigned a tech and a guy came out timely. He looked at the refrigerator and said that it was an older model. Some parts had gone and he wasn’t gonna be able to repair it, so I needed a new refrigerator. For three weeks, I had to live out of a cooler in the Arizona heat with no refrigerator and three weeks went by before I could actually have a person put in a new refrigerator in my house.
I'm the person who doesn’t have the refrigerator and I didn’t feel like AHS's customer service was overly sympathetic, but that's not really what I was looking for. My primary complaint was that I was asking them to do something and what can be done, and they didn’t have any answers for me. I asked if there was a way I could escalate it and what could I do and if they wanted me to call the guy back out. But they said that they would follow up and that went on for almost a week. We were all waiting for some tech to update and to say that a part is unavailable and that I needed a new fridge. And then I had to go through their process where they would send me a link to buy a new fridge. Literally, I called twice a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon and asked them what the status was and if anyone updated the case, because there was no communication to me.
Finally, when I talked to the people at the company that the tech worked for, they said that the system at AHS is so bad that they would sit for hours on the phone waiting to update the case and would give up. And then I told that to the woman I was talking to on the phone from AHS, and she said, “Yeah. The waits are kind of long for the third part to update the ticket.” And then I ordered a fridge and that was gonna take 10 days, but it ended up taking 12 days to get the fridge. Overall, it took three weeks from start to finish. Apparently, whatever method it is that AHS uses for third parties to report back, that process appears to be broken.

I needed a new sump pump. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out a plumber from 80 Service Incorporated. They installed it but within a few weeks, it was not working. I called for another plumber to come back out and AHS sent the same company. They said that they could not access the pump because of the water. But there was water because the pump that they installed was not working. So, they wouldn't repair it and I had to call American Home Shield several times about it. We went back and forth over the terminology in our agreement on whether or not the techs had access to the sump pump because there was no physical barrier to them accessing it.
The company also wanted to charge me $300 to pump out the water, but I wasn't going to pay that. So, I had to get to the pump myself then I pumped it out, and I had American Home Shield send another company out to do an assessment. The second company said that there was either a faulty installation or a defective product installed. That meant that I was right and that there should not have been 8-inch of water in my cellar. So, AHS sent the original company back out because it had been within 30 days since they installed the initial pump. And their tech got it working yesterday, so hopefully it continues to work.
In the past, I've been satisfied with some of the vendors that AHS sent out. But with this most recent claim, I was very dissatisfied with how they treated me and how they handled the process by saying that the contractor was going to charge me extra money to fix their mistake. Aside from that, some of AHS' representatives were extremely rude and my husband and I were very frustrated with their process. The initial few representatives I spoke to would not let me talk to the Authorizations Department or whoever it was to escalate the issue to the next level to get another company out for a second opinion. They basically told me there was nothing they could do and that was not true.
So, I calmed down and called again until finally someone got me over to Authorizations Department, and they were able to help me. I would expect for AHS to want to work with me as their customer and their client, and not be so resistant to listening to what I say when I'm the one living with the faulty product that was installed by one of the vendors that they sent to my house.

They proceed to tell me that a technician would be able to tell me if it is cover under warranty. If technician comes out, they would charge service fee of $75 regardless if it is covered or not. My point is that I’m paying a premium fee for customer service to let me know coverage, if they can’t tell what is their purpose of answering call? And if it’s not cover under warranty, why would I want them to come out? It makes no sense.
Not only this customer service issue. I’ve asked to speak to a manager, they apparently don’t have anyone. Weird that a large company like AHS would not have ANY managers working while they are open. My sister also had an air conditioning issue last weekend, not during a heat wave, and her company dispatched someone that day. I asked him if he could snake the drain in the garage and he told me he couldn't do that and that I would have to open up a whole separate claim. His attitude and demeanor weren't very good. Even after the second time that AHS sent somebody out, it still wasn't quite right. So I contacted a different plumbing company that wasn't with AHS. It cost me $325 to find out exactly what the problem was. They were able to get a diagnosis of what the issue was, what should be done to fix it, and how much it was gonna cost.
Another thing was that when I had to call customer service at AHS, it was almost impossible to get a hold of someone. And then, when I went to make my first payment, I got transferred four different times only to end back up at the very first department that I contacted. I wasn't too impressed with the wait time on trying to get in touch with the customer service representative. My most recent claim with American Home Shield was fine. They were really quick and they gave the claim out to the plumber people, then they called me. The only problem I’ve had is the one I’m having now with my refrigerator. My problem is not American Home Shield but the appliance people they used. It was three weeks yesterday since I’ve had a refrigerator. I called in the afternoon and said my refrigerator wasn’t working, so American Home Shield called the appliance people. They called me later that day and said the people couldn’t get there until Monday. And on Monday, at the time they came, I didn’t hear anybody knock and they never called. But the guy took time to take a picture to prove he was there and took off. He didn’t wait very long and didn’t knock very loud.
So, I had to wait until Wednesday for them to come. They came and the guy said that I needed a part that’s gone and that they'll take care of it. I waited and got a call the next day, on Thursday, saying that they will be coming for it next Thursday afternoon. I said that I have a doctor’s appointment, so they said it will be Friday morning. On Friday morning, I sat there and when I called, they said that I was scheduled for that afternoon. All it was is another technician who showed up and said that I need that part plus another part. I called American Home Shield and they said that until they get a new part, they can’t do anything.
I tried calling on Monday, but I couldn’t get through to American Home Shield and I didn’t wanna wait on the phone that long. I called yesterday, which is three weeks, and they said that they would have to report on Tuesday. They said that when the part comes in, they’ll give me a call. But by the time they get the part, it’ll be another week and I’m going on vacation for a couple of weeks, so it’ll be August before I get my refrigerator.
Still, the problem isn’t American Home Shield. They’ve been very good. I had a dishwasher that didn’t work and they sent somebody out twice. My plumbing issues have been fixed promptly. It’s just that the refrigerator is a problem and it’s the appliance company they have that’s the problem. I would recommend American Home Shield. For the first year of ownership, it has been really helpful and I’m glad that I had it. I didn’t have to pay for leaks and drains that were plugged up.

And it flashes this F10 code. So I asked if he could fix it. He said it was a separate charge. So I told him that if he was here to fix it, it shouldn't be a separate charge.
Eventually, he told me that it was already working so I turned on the oven and it worked fine. About two weeks out, the oven started heating up hot and heavy, like what it had been doing in the beginning so the issue wasn't completely resolved. I was not pleased. Meanwhile, with my last service with the air conditioning unit, I had a good experience. The guy came right out and told me he needed a part. A part in our air conditioner went out during the time we had an excessive heat advisory. We came home from out of town and our house was already at 89 degrees and we have three small children and a dog. We then very quickly called American Home Shield and let them know what was going on. The person I spoke with the first time was fantastic because at first, she said that it’ll be 48 hours but when I explained the urgency behind it, she contacted two separate companies in my area to see if one can confirm that they would come out the same day. And she kept me on the line for that. That was fantastic.
And a company ended up coming out that evening. The gentleman from the company that was here was able to very quickly determine the part that was needed to be replaced and he had it on his truck. Then, he was able to fix the unit in less than five minutes. However, the warranty was like, “We have to have the authorization number. We can’t leave until we have that.” So I called back in and I spoke with someone else and she told me that she can't authorize that since their authorization department has to do that and that department was busy. She also told me that it was a 24-hour process. I told her, "This guy is at my house and he said he’s gonna take the part out and leave if he doesn’t have a confirmation number.”
I asked to get connected with the authorization department and I was on hold, because I can’t have the guy take the part out because the air conditioner will stop working. So we were on hold for about 35 minutes before a lady came on the line. She told me that she had to talk to the contractor and not to me. So I had the contractor talk to her and she was able to get the information. He was very nice to us but you could tell he was frustrated because he was able to fix the issue is five minutes but he was on our property for 35 minutes in order to get a number so that he can leave and get paid. That has been the only issue we've ever had with American Home Shield. We’ve used them four times since we moved into this house and everything has been fantastic. My dad called me yesterday and told me he'd get a contract with AHS and I told him that it's totally worth it.

My AC wasn't cooling. I filed an online claim with American Home Shield online and that went smoothly but the contractor didn’t show up at the timeframe that they gave so we had to reschedule. Also it was kinda hard to get in touch with them when they had to come back because whatever it is that they did didn’t work. But they wound up coming back and the issue has been resolved. It has been a good experience with AHS so far.

My husband and I purchased a house and the previous owner had American Home Shield so we just transferred their warranty into our name. Submitting a claim was simple and easy. Our AC was working but it wasn't blowing cold air. I didn't know exactly what was wrong with it so I just checked every box that applied to it. Then the contractors were quick at responding and scheduling a time to come out. I submitted the request at 11:00 at night and we had been picked up by 12:00 midnight. The repairs have been fine and the contractors were nice. Everything that we’ve done with AHS has been positive.

I called AHS over the phone for our AC claim and the first contractor, K&W, came out to put the fan motor on and then the next week, I had Peachtree Service come out to do a yearly tune up. However, they said the compressor was gone and the unit had a disconnector that was loose and they couldn't do anything to service it until these things were addressed. I had the Peachtree Service technician write down everything so I could articulate it to the warranty agent.
I called and called Home Shield back to let them know and they sent K&W back out. They were supposed to come between 12:00 and 4:00, but they got there around five minutes to 6:00. They spent five minutes and said nothing's wrong with the unit. The second opinion came out which is Air Design and they were professional and did a great job. They diagnosed the issue as a compressor being missed or the compressor being faulty and they were able to get it resolved.
I went back and forth and spoke to about seven people within three days. The diagnostic was not received, which I heard from several people, and then I heard the diagnostic was received and they were waiting on it to go through the approval process. We finally got it straightened out after 48 hours but it was a challenging experience. We were without service for almost three and a half weeks and we've been sitting in heat trying to go back and forth with the first opinion from K&W and they were waiting for the second opinion. Also, sometimes it's hard to understand the accent of the AHS associates and I have to ask them to slow it down and speak a little clearly and a little louder. But overall, all the AHS associates were very helpful and they tried their best to pay resolution to my claim. I would recommend AHS.

We were told that we were given a call on June 29th to update us that we would be owing an extra $295 for the copper coil modification which is interesting because when we were first called the day before, they had already diagnosed it and turned into AHS. We were given a call saying that we would be responsible for $315 which I believe is nine pounds of refrigerant. AHS reimbursed us $10 a pound but the tech gets here today after we’ve waited almost 10 days for all of these. We’re in Texas so the upstairs of my house got to 99 degrees the other day. I’ve got a one year old and a five year old so we’ve all been sleeping downstairs.
We’ve done what we have to do to get things going but then, the tech got here today. He showed me an invoice for $610 so there’s an extra $295 on there for this copper coil modification that I can assure, no one from AHS called myself or my wife on either of the numbers we have or simply sending us an email telling us that there was an amendment to the original invoice. None of that was there.
Speaking with the customer service agent currently, she was very well versed in telling me that AHS wouldn’t reimburse for the copper coil modification. She also did not offer any suggestions as to why, other than reading an internal timestamp on their guy’s end, said that someone had communicated to the customer that there was an amendment to the original invoice.
But what was funny is when she was reading me the script, it mentioned that 610 buck’s out the door. So I got a voicemail from AHS that says it’s gonna be $315. And then I’ve got no other voicemail after they claimed to have been. And on top of that, why would I have any reason to think that it’s anything other than $315 until they get here the day they do the work to tell me it’s gonna be $610 and that they can’t start the work until I cut him a check? I kinda felt like I was being set up. I didn’t know if it was the AC company that set me up and they just needed an extra 300 bucks thinking that I would give it to the tech and not say anything. So I went ahead because we got to get the work done to get AC upstairs.
And then I came inside and that was when I called AHS and I knew it was a busy time of the year but I waited 45 minutes to talk to a human. And after that 45 minutes, the person that I spoke with was very understanding at first but then it was like she was almost reading off a script of what to tell people when they call in to complain about the copper coil modification. I said I just called in to see if I could get some help on the $295 because I was never explained that to and then she quickly went to the transcript and mentioned they called me on the 29th and left a voicemail. I told her they didn't and she said it didn’t matter if they called me or not and the fact that they have it noted internally, means that it was in print with them. It was a little bit unprofessional and there was no sympathy at all.
I’ve been paying a long time with AHS and more importantly, this AC unit. I probably spent 2,500 bucks the last four years out of pocket on this AC unit between service calls and bringing it back to specks. If they called me back and told me it was gonna be 610 bucks, I could make that adjustment and be ready when the guy gets here, instead of looking absolutely confused trying to figure out why I’m paying that extra $300.

Recently, I submitted a claim for a stove repair online and it was easy. Then the contractor that they sent out was timely, polite, and always responded whenever I contacted them. Since the repair, the stove's performance is about 80% because there's still a burner that doesn’t work. But I'm not using a lighter to light the stove up anymore. I use the automated lighter of the stove now and that makes things safer. Other than that, it was my first time using AHS and I was impressed with the ease of getting the claim in and contacting the repair professional.

The first two didn’t wanna do anything. They said it needed a new compressor and that they’d get back with me. I guess they called American Home Shield and cancelled because they refused to come back. The third one had to order a compressor and only took them two days to fix. It's been a really good experience with American Home Shield. I've had one service call. I have a heat pump, which is for heating and cooling, and it wasn’t turning off. I'd have the thermostat set to auto, and it wouldn’t kick off when it hit a certain temperature. It was having a really hard time cooling the house. So I put in the claim online to AHS and they sent out Total Quality Heating and Air. The contractor came out and said that it was just a part of the heat pump that communicated to the thermostat that was welded shut, so he had the part and just replaced it. It was all done within half an hour from the time he showed up. It was super fast. Since the repair, everything's good and they're working. AHS is doing pretty well. It was a really quick turnaround time and a really good contractor as well. And he was informative and helpful too. I'd tell others to go for AHS as I also took the recommendation from a friend to get it.

There was some leakage of water on the floor from the AC so I tried to call American Home Shield but I didn't get somebody because I called them late. I ultimately did the claim through the internet. I went to the AHS.com and then I went to their particular request service. Usually, online is faster. Then I got a text message telling that somebody will be coming, which was good, and the someone set up an appointment the next day. When the contractor came out, he fixed the problem with my AC right away. It was done in only 1 appointment and there was no problem which I needed to call.
The only comment I have for this experience is that when the contractors come, they can put some guard on their shoes or they can leave their shoes outside and walk in the house. I leave my shoes outside when I walk in the house and I don’t want somebody else to walk in my house on shoes because I don’t walk myself too. They cannot just bring their shoes into the house and they should ask if it’s okay for them to come with shoes on. So, that will be nice and maybe that’s more considerate on their part to ask.

My AC broke down last May 19 and when I called American Home Shield, they said that I cannot do anything before July 7. So I called my realtor and I told them that we bought the house in April, so I asked them why could I not call about anything before July. The realtor called someone, fixed the issue and then they told me that I could now call the home warranty. I called AHS on May 25th and the contractor came to my place on May 28 to look at the problem. The contractor said that the compressor was not working and that it would take 10 to 12 days to get the compressor with approval. He said the five days was for him to check for approval and another five days for the compressor to come. But it was after 15 days that the contractor came back to my place with the compressor. Then, he said that something was burnt and he needed to fix it. So, he came the next day and he changed a part and the AC started working.
And then after 15 minutes, the guy said that the compressor was not taking that much load or pressure so, he needed to change the compressor. He told me that now, they didn't need to involve a warranty company. They will expedite the process and it will be quicker than the last time. But it was after eight days that he placed the new compressor. The AC started working but again, after a few days, the same problem happened. I called the home warranty and then the contractor came and said that he has fixed the problem and then left. But on Saturday, June 30, the whole day until night time, the temperature was from 90 degrees and then to 84 degrees. Still, the AC did not become soundly fixed, which we set at 76, so my husband called back AHS.
On July 2nd, the contractor came back on a Monday. He was supposed to come between 8 AM to 11 AM, but nobody came. So I called AHS and they said that another guy was coming. The guy came and he told me that the compressor and something in the attic were both not working. Despite that, the people from AHS listened to me and answered whenever I called. But that office is very small and even though the compressor is a common part of AC, it takes 10 to 12 days to come. It's 92 degrees inside my home and today, my AC is still not fixed. I could recommend AHS to others but it's time to fix the problem.

Back in September, we had a problem with our AC system. Called AHS and they sent someone out that said the compressor needed to be replaced and so the Freon needed to be put back in the system afterwards. This was fixed in October when temps were low and everything was assumed to be fine. Fast forward to this past week when we had a heat wave in the 90s and my AC stopped working so well and temps in the house got into the 80s with a two week old infant in the house. Asked my HVAC tech neighbor to take a peek and he thought the Freon was low but couldn't fix it as he didn't have any Freon.
Called AHS and they wanted to send out the same company but they couldn't come out until 4 days later. So I called AHS again and they sent out a different company that felt the previous technician did not put in enough Freon when they fixed the system. So they had to put in more Freon which I had to pay a portion of and I'm fine with. But when I called AHS to ask about waiving a repeat deductible for a problem from the previous technician I was only met with a robotic "sorry sir, our policy is you put in another work order so we have to charge you another fee". Was told that because I didn't submit a complaint about the service in October within 60 days after the work was completed there was nothing AHS could do to waive the fee.
Even though the tech told us there would be no way to know there is a problem until it reaches high temps outside because then the AC system could not keep up. So unless there was a way to magically make it 90 degrees outside in Maryland in October-December I wouldn't have known there was a problem. Very disappointed with AHS and how they handled this matter. I begged and pleaded to waive the service fee but was just met with a "sorry sir, there's nothing we can do". Well AHS, there's something I can do and that's find another home warranty company.
Good morning Matthew,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience to have the air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and refund the service fee that was paid for the second visit.

Extremely disappointed with AHS. We have been without AC since June 17, it is now July 6. A tech with one of your contracted companies, Service Mechanical of Tidewater, took one look at the outside of our unit and automatically filed the claim with your company (unbeknownst to us) as being ‘dog urine that caused catastrophic failure’ which is clearly not the reason for failure as there is no noticeable leakage of freon on the coils. Had the tech evaluated the unit properly he would have seen it was a ground fault on the compressor as the system is 20 years old.
Because of this tech’s laziness in our system’s diagnosis, AHS has determined that they will not cover the replacement cost under the ‘pest damage’ component of the contract. After being on the phone with your company for almost 45 minutes to argue this, the only relief they could offer me was to send yet another company to our residence on the 11th for a second opinion which is almost an entire week that we have to continue to wait. Mind you, this will now be the FOURTH company requested for repair and puts us at almost a month without AC. Our entire experience with your company has been ludicrous and I will absolutely sway everyone in my social networks to refrain from buying your home warranties.
Good morning Amy,
I understand your frustration with your most recent experience to have your air conditioner system repaired. The next option would be a second opinion to see if a different technician can obtain another diagnosis. I would be glad to speak with you and help get this resolved.

I've had American Home Shield for almost 15 years and they've been giving good service. As a whole, their technicians are very professional, timely, and they do a very good job. However, sometimes we'd get a jerk from one contractor or they'd try to sell us something off their own independent contracts and not want us to tell anybody. That doesn't reflect American Home Shield and I always call them about such contractor and tell them that they might wanna reconsider the company.
I once had a guy, who after I asked for an ID, asked me why I needed the ID. And when I told it was because I didn't know who he was, he then asked me, "Why? Is this neighborhood not safe?" I told him I couldn't let him in if couldn't show me an ID. And also, this guy came in an unmarked white van. I'm not gonna let anybody like that in my house and I don't know who they are. That was stupid. And so I contacted American Home Shield on that. But the rest of the other technicians that have come, they identify. And on my most recent claim, the technician who came out, Nick, was very nice, professional and he made sure that everything was working properly. I had to file a claim because after I came back from vacation, there was no hot water. I easily filed the claim online and then the next day, I got a text from AHS letting me know when the technician will be out and they also said I could track them too.
Nick said it was a switch then he gave me a receipt of the problem that he took care of. It worked for a day but then the very next day, there was no hot water again. So I called them back and he came out and checked it again and he said the problem was a filter. He replaced it with a brand new filter and now I have hot water. Things have been fine ever since. All in all, I recommend American Home Shield to friends and I've done it several times. And their plan and cost are very reasonable compared to others. We bought a house that was built in the 80's and getting American Home Shield was a pertinent thing to do. We've been with them for about nine years now and recently, the control panel on our dishwasher quit working and they sent somebody out. He got a list of parts to order and sent it to AHS. AHS then offered us a buy-out, so we took the cash and bought another dishwasher.
I usually file my claims over the phone and it’s better than when I go online. I’ve got a guy from a claim filed online and he was taking care of one of our resthouses. He looked at it about three days later than he was supposed to, then ordered a part. Then he waited until his next day-off to come and that was a week. That was during hot weather and we were with a baby and that didn’t make us very happy. Also, if I go online, they send these guys in from about 80 miles off instead of using the guys right here in town. If I call and tell them that I want the guys here in town, they would get them for me. Most experiences we've had with AHS are really good about taking care of issues in a pretty timely manner. AHS and the appliance company handled my recent claim just fine, but when I had an air conditioner problem, they didn’t satisfy the situation at all. I’ve had close to 20 different vendors come out, each giving me a line that the air conditioner cannot go lower than 20 degrees. So when it was 110 out, it would only reach 90 in the home, but that was not the case. The problem with AHS is if it’s something major, they don’t wanna pay for it. They would rather Mickey Mouse the problem, get the item working for a very short period of time and hope that the consumer gets fed up and purchases a new item, just like I did. It was irritating.
It seemed like I was calling every 60 days to have the air conditioner looked at. Instead of replacing the parts that need to be replaced and getting the AC back in order, they put a Band-Aid on it and hope it doesn’t go back out in less than 60 days. Otherwise, I can call the provider again. It always goes out after that but they never handled the problem in the first place. Most of the contractors were okay but they’re working for AHS, not for me. They wanna keep their contract with AHS so they don’t want to tell AHS that the air conditioner needs to be replaced.
I have the bills and receipts over the last four years of them repairing my air conditioner constantly every four to six months. I can’t even tell how many receipts I have from AHS. I’m paying AHS every month for them to take care of the problem. And I’m paying $75 every time an air conditioner guy comes out to look at it. It’s ridiculous. It has cost me more money to have AHS send someone to look at the AC than it would have cost had I just replaced it the first time I had a problem with it. AHS sucks.

We submitted a claim to AHS and the plumber from The Lindsay Company came out to fix it. He was very professional and didn't take that long. He identified what was wrong and took care of it. Despite the AC issue, using my AHS warranty was a good experience.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since the middle of June and I'm very happy with their service. The first experience I had with them was for a rekeying job where the contractor came out in half a week, and I just paid the $75 deductible. Ronnie, the guy who helped me do it, was very professional and prompt, and he answered all my questions, so I couldn’t be happier. AHS has good customer service but it was confusing sometimes when I put in a service request. I was told that the vendor would call me after 24 hours, but in both times that I put in a service request, I didn't get any phone call within 24 hours. So, after two days of waiting for them, I had to reach out to the vendors myself because I didn’t want to waste too much time.

My dryer broke down and American Home Shield sent me the information of the contractor. We then set up an appointment for the guy to inspect my dryer. The guy came and told my wife that he was not gonna be able to work on the dryer because there was no way for him to work on it as there was no room in the laundry room and that we were supposed to provide access to the machine. My wife told him that she cannot pull the dryer out. The tech found a way to look into the dryer though and found out what the problem was. He needed to make another appointment because he had to order a part. Two days after, the contractor called us back and told us what day the technician can replace the part. Then the guy came, replaced the part and the appliance is working just fine. Having warranty on my property is a peace of mind and people should get American Home Shield.

I submit claims with American Home Shield both online and by phone. When the clothes dryer quit heating, I submitted online and the repairman came out. He ordered a part, came back, put it in and the dryer is working fine now. He was very good and easy to work with. Before the dryer was fixed, we couldn't dry our clothes. But after that, it has helped in getting things done.
However, a few years ago, we had an air conditioning problem. And whoever AHS sent out denied the repair because he said that the air conditioner had been improperly installed. But it had been working for 25 years with no problems. So, saying it was improperly installed didn't make sense. They said it had to be replaced and they wouldn't pay for it. The company that was sent out was gonna charge me $3500 to replace the air conditioning unit and I got screwed on that deal because I had an independent guy come out and he charged me $4500 to replace both units, not just one unit.
I almost canceled, but I've had AHS for 20 years and I've had good experience with small appliances when it didn't cost them much to fix. But when the repair cost them a lot, then it was a different story. My daughter has AHS too and she had the same experience with a major repair with air conditioning. It was denied, but with appliances, there was no problem, and I think that's garbage. So with the air conditioner, I've been totally unsatisfied with the experience, but with the others, I've been satisfied.
Good afternoon Jw,
I would first like to thank you for your patronage to AHS over the past 20 years. I understand that you have expressed some concerns with your most recent experiences over the past few years. I would be glad to speak with you and address those concerns.

The air conditioner wasn’t working and I couldn’t figure out quite what it was. It wasn’t coming on with the thermostat. The compressor and the fan weren’t running. I called AHS and it was the first time I've made a claim. I preferred calling to get an answer and send information. I might change my mind after I have a couple of opportunities or problems that have to be solved.
Everything was very positive, both in making the claim and talking to the service guy. The rep answered my questions and I submitted the appropriate information. It was very satisfactory, and I was not frustrated or distressed. The contractor was very helpful. He gave a simple solution but he did more than he had to. He had gotten the AC running and then tested everything twice to make sure that the output was what it should be. It had to do with the pressure of the coolant. I asked him a couple of questions and he answered. Plus, he was very concerned about making things right and doing the job, which seemed right to me. However, I get a lot of stuff over email from American Home Shield.

On my most recent claim, their contractor showed up right away and did a good job. They did what they were supposed to for my plumbing issue and I was satisfied. With my furnace however, I had a run-in with American Home Shield on that. They had to put a furnace in but they didn’t want to go for it. I had to contact the CEO and then they came through. They made a big stink of it, but they did it. And I would recommend that they work on their communication; there’s nobody to contact there if we have a complaint, no email address and we can sit on the phone for two hours if we got a complaint. Other than that, I’d recommend them to friends.

My AC was not cooling off and was just blowing normal air. The contractors replaced a little valve and it took a little longer than normal for them to come in. One of those guys' family member passed away and they couldn’t make it, but they were really proactive about coming back and they made sure everything was fine. The contractor who came out to do the work was a really nice guy. He talked to me for a bit and we went together and checked on everything. He told me right away what was wrong and they took the unit serial number. They called me back and they told me how long it was gonna take to get the part. They came in when they got the part two days after and installed it.
However, American Home Shield should get a contractor closer to the city where you actually opened the claim from. The contractors who came out were from Oregon and I live in Washington. AHS should have one or two more contractors available in the area so if somebody doesn't come in, somebody else will. They were a little short-handed. Other than that, everything has been good. The house is nice and cold now. And the claims reps had really good communication skills and they provided good service. They called on Saturday and since the next day was a Sunday, they set it up for Monday. The thermostat went wrong with our air-conditioning but they didn’t replace it with exactly what we had. It looks like a lower grade model. But the problem was fixed timely and now, we can use the upstairs again. My wife also really liked the guy. When our refrigerator's cooling unit was broken, I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their online site was very user-friendly and it only took me a few minutes to file a claim. Their site was intuitive and it flowed in a logical manner. The contractor AHS sent was very professional and he came on time. Once he looked at the refrigerator's cooling unit, he found out that the hole in the coolant area was too big to be patched. He told me that if they can fix it, they will. But because it isn't even fixable, they will replace it. The technician explained everything thoroughly to us and we understood how everything's going. They gave us the timetable for when the claim would be completed.
I’ve had insurance companies before where I have the policy but they were not gonna cover the claim because of this and that, or they were only gonna give us 80% of the value of something. But AHS replaced our fridge and gave us a new one that was pretty comparable with the one that was broken. It wasn't the exact model, but it was a new one so we're pretty pleased with the service. American Home Shield is a great insurance to have and I had a really good experience.

I have a problem with filing a claim online. The website only lets me put in one item for electronics. So even if I have a ceiling fan and an outlet that are not working, the website only lets me put one thing in. On the other hand, when you can call, the second issue gets on the list and there’s one fee to have the electrician sent out for both. I’ve had it happen where I am told that the technician would only check one thing and not the second issue because that was not what I put down in the claim. But there wasn’t a place for me to do the other one. American Home Shield encourages everybody to put their claim in online but it is actually a detriment if there is a need to talk to somebody down the road. If you do something online, it gets handled in a whole different world. If you speak to a representative about what you did online, they act like they don’t have to help you on that.
I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield when we noticed that the pump wasn’t working. I live in a flat roof house so when the condensation from the air conditioner builds up, it goes into a drain pan and the pump takes it out the pipe. The technician came out, looked at the pump, turned the switch on and said it was done. What must have happened was when we had had somebody come out and clean our coils, they turned the pump off when they were moving things around. The technician was a nice guy. He was prompt and good. But with everybody else, the service and response time have been so bad.
I assume American Home Shield does some kind of due diligence but most of the contractors they’re contracting with now are single guys working out of the backend of a pickup truck. At 11:00, the electrician from Mayday Electronics was telling me he could get to me next week and at that time, he was at home. I heard a baby crying in the background.
I've also got AC issues with Advantage Air. Those are the worst people. They had been out several times over the last couple of weeks and in the end, I just spent $1,500 getting something replaced rather than dealing with them again. These guys told me they could get to the property in a week and a half. But the property is a weekly condo beachfront. Who was I gonna rent it to with no AC? I get $3,000 a week and it was cheaper for me to pay out of my pocket and keep the renter than wait for the technician.
Another time, they came out to my rental property at 10:00 in the morning. The technician just came in, did some work and then left. He didn’t tell me about it or leave an invoice about what he did. My tenant called me an hour later and told me that they had no water. I called the AC company and asked if they happened to turn the water off and they said, “No. Why would we ever touch the water?” But the water was on and after their guy was there, the water was not on.
I went out to the property and called the water company. They came out, checked the meter and looked for leaks but they couldn’t get anything. Then I called a plumber and he kept saying that there must be something wrong with the meter. They didn’t even want to come out because they said they didn’t wanna waste my money. I told them that the water had left and said it was not their issue. So the plumbing company came out and the owner was with them. They sent me a video that they went to the house by the AC and there was a valve that had been turned off. It was similar to the pump that we originally called about. I called the owner of the AC company but he said that he had known the technician for 10 years and if the guy said he didn’t do anything then he didn’t. I got into an argument with the owner and he flat out called me a liar.
It cost me $239 to have the plumber to come out after hours and it took me a solid three weeks to get an invoice from the AC technician. I called his office as well as texted and emailed him. Finally, he faxed the invoice to me. Those guys are a joke and when I told American Home Shield, they said they would look into it but nothing ever came out of it.
AHS has a very bad name in this area and this is an area where every house can basically get sold. People would want to have a home warranty for a year but nobody is wanting to ride with AHS. My management company won't even deal with AHS. I’ve told AHS many times about their contractors though. They really need to vet the people that they're giving the contracts to. It is already upsetting when something is wrong with your house but then with AHS, you know the battle. You’re getting ready to go through dealing with the service provider and it’s almost not worth it. You’re better off just calling whoever to come and fix it. I have contracts with American Home Shield for three homes and I’m considering cancelling all my contracts and moving to a different company.
Good morning Clifford,
I understand that you have multiple concerns regarding your experience with AHS from the online portal to AC service claim. I would be glad to speak with you to ensure that every issue has been resolved.

I submitted the claim for the dishwasher online and I put in the details. They gave me a number where I could call and they called me within a couple of hours. The representative who called me back to take down the information and tell me what contractor in my area that they use, what their name was and address gave me the contact number so I called the contractor and set up an appointment. AHS didn’t set up the appointment for me because they didn’t know what my schedule was and I appreciate that.
AHS already had a contractor signed within the day and I had to slow it down a little bit because I couldn’t get freed from work. He showed up right on time, called me half an hour before he got there so I could get home. He was very nice, friendly and clean. He also showed me in the future what I can do to double check the appliance before even having to call them and he was on-site for half an hour. Since then, it’s been working fine.
It was my first claim with American Home Shield and the whole experience was excellent. It was better than my experience where I bought extended warranties on the appliance. Our home is in an 11-unit condo and everybody has asked me about my experience with this and one other person in the condo already has American Home Shield covering her appliances. The building’s now getting to be about 10 years old and many of the appliances are getting to be about 10 years old so people are looking into it rather than replacing the appliance. I have a home warranty through this company. I had to have my air conditioner serviced. I was double charged for the $75 service call fee. I contacted American Shield on 6/1/2018 to inform them that they had double charged me. I spoke to a customer service representative named Shantel who told me that a refund would be processed for me. She said the refund would take 7-14 business days. After waiting over 7 business days, I called back to check on the status of my refund. I made this call on 6/14/2018, I first spoke with a Cynthia a customer service representative. She informed me that my refund request was never processed. She informed me that they cancelled my refund request because I should have been double charged. I immediately asked to speak with a supervisor.
I was transferred to Jona, I explained to Jona that I was double charged and promised a refund and that the refund request was canceled. Jona informed me that he would re-process the refund request and that it would now take 14-21 days. I called American Home Shield again 7/6/2018 after not receiving my refund. I was told that for some reason my refund hadn’t been processed. The first person that I spoke with was a customer service representative by the name of Alex. Alex explained that the refund request hadn’t been processed. I immediately asked to speak with a supervisor. I was placed on hold and held for 30 minutes before being disconnected. At no time did Alex call me back, even though he verified my contact information at the beginning of our call.
As you can see this company has horrible customer service. I called back, waited 20 minutes before another CSR by the name of Yhel answered. I explained the entire scenario to Yhel, only to again be informed that my refund hadn’t been processed but she “thinks” that Alex processed the refund but she would have to call me back the next day because she wasn’t sure. I asked to be again transferred to a supervisor. This time I got Jenny. Jenny gives me the same runaround that the other CSR’s gave me. She needs to call me back the next day because she needs to research why my 3 other refund request weren’t processed. She thinks Alex processed it but she needs to email him.
At this point, I’m livid. I’ve been on the phone with this company now for over an hour and no one can tell me what happened to my refund. So I inform Jenny that Alex never confirmed, before he disconnected our call, that he processed my refund. I explained to her that as a supervisor she should be able to process my refund and put a rush on it. After all, I was told on 6/1/2018 that my refund would be processed. I’ve been give so much conflicting information. I told her I wanted to speak with her manager. Magically she doesn’t have a manager. At the same time I’m on the phone with “Jenny” my husband called to speak with a manager, he gets Wayne. Wayne informs my husband that he sees that our issue has been escalated 4 times but no one has done anything. However, he couldn’t either. So SAD!
So in a nutshell, I ended my call with Jenny by her “claiming” she’s processing a refund for me and that it now will take 7-21 business days before I will receive it. I advised her that I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and every other agency I can find to file a complaint with. My husband informed Wayne of the same. This company owes me $75 and continues to give me excuses and the runaround. I want my money and I won’t stop until I get it.

This means it will also need R22 refrigerant, which is being phased out by the federal gov't. Guess what, AHS warranty only covers a fraction of the of costs of R22. The contract clearly states that they will only pay up to $10 per lb. for R22. Problem is... R22 costs at least $75 per lb... if more!!! I'm now out at least $455 worth of R22. Why did I buy a warranty???
Anyway... AHS tells me they will have a new compressor sent to their vendor (Carrier) in order for their contractor to pick it up. I was told it would be there no later than today, 7/6/18... 10 days from the date I filed the claim. As a result, I took my family out of town because we could not stand being without A/C. I tried to call AHS this morning to confirm that the part had arrived as expected... and I could not get a hold of them. Every number on their website would disconnect me after sending me through the phone "menu".
I literally called 11 times before someone actually answered their "help" line. And what did they tell me when I finally got to speak with someone? You guessed it... it would NOT be delivered as I was told it would and it would be another 3 to 4 days... they think. (no guarantee) So now I'm looking at a minimum of 2 weeks without A/C... and no guarantee when the part will be here... much less be installed. If/when it does get installed... I'll have a 25 year old A/C unit, with a brand new compressor... using refrigerant that has been discontinued by the federal gov't. The only decent part of this whole debacle (to this point) is the pleasant demeanor of the customer service agents. It is certainly not their fault that the company they work for doesn't appear to be interested in providing quality customer service for the warranties they are selling. I will provide an update within the next week as this thing plays out. Gonna be a hot week. :(
UPDATE: after submitting my 1-star review on 7/6/18, I received an email from AHS claiming to want to help resolve my issue. Yeah!!! I immediately responded via email eager to speak to someone…………no response. I responded again today………….no response. So, I can’t even get the “customer care/complaint dept.” at AHS to respond to me. The lack of customer service with AHS is absolutely staggering.
So…..I called American Home Shield today (7/10/18) to get an update on the A/C part that was ordered back on 6/29/18 and was supposed to be delivered on 7/6/18…….and then again on 7/10/18. Was now told that the part had not been “approved for delivery” and was never shipped. What??? I’m now on day 16 without A/C. I asked the young lady if there was someone I could speak to about this and she put me on hold. She came back about 5 minutes later and said that she was told that because this is a “part” issue, they cannot escalate my dilemma to anyone else. (Wow……you can’t make this stuff up) I asked her what she recommended I do. She apologized and said she didn’t know what I should do. I actually felt sorry for her because she wanted to help me, but was unable to. Next stop…….Better Business Bureau.

They did everything they could to ignore me. No return calls and no fixing my dishwasher. Finally I took things into my own hands and replaced the dishwasher after several months of it not working. The people they sent to fix it were not capable of fixing it and they would not say that it needed replacing. I replaced it myself and they ignored me for months until I filed a complaint with the Nevada Insurance Commission. Stay away from these people. They are really bad. I finally did get paid but more than 9 months later. They hire the cheapest and worst contractors they can get and it shows. After waiting on the phone for 90 minutes they finally answered but ignored me and never called back and never took any action.

Every year the A/C goes out and every year they come to fix it, which usually costs me a few hundred dollars extra. In 2016 they had the WORST company out, who replaced the coil in the attic after coming out a few times to figure out what the problem is and charging me a few hundred dollars. The following year they had a great company come out to fix it again even though it cost another $590.00. This year it went out again cost me another $218.00. Now the coil is making a terrible rattling noise in the attic. Called to ask for the good company to come out and they said I'd have to pay more to use the good company. So now I have to wait for the latest company to come out and hope and pray the house doesn't burn down as I don't have that much confidence in their newest contractor. If the house burns down I will have to sue them. Plus, I couldn't understand a WORD what the AHS customer service girl was saying and she wasn't making any sense.

We have an AHS warranty that costs $700. We called to submit a claim because our hvac was broken. We waited 2 days and still never heard from a technician so I called the one they assigned me and he laughed at me and said that he doesn't even cover that area. We called and filed another request. They sent us a company that couldn't come out until a week later!!!! I called and requested a different company and couldn't get one because I had to speak with someone in India that doesn't speak English even though I requested a supervisor 5 times and was denied.
We waited the week, the company came out on a Friday and said, "Yep, it's broken and I can only work on one of the units because you only have one claim in and have to file an additional claim to get the second unit looked at." I filed the second claim and the technician then has to file the information and wait for AHS to reply. It's been 5 days and they finally agree to replace the air handler, but I'll have to pay $475 out of pocket because the warranty only covers $125. It's been 3 weeks!! Stil no air, and even if I agree to the repair it'll be another 2 weeks for them to order in parts, etc. Do not use this company!!!!

In 2017, we had an A/C technician come to my home on various occasions for repair of an old a/c unit. Each time, I was told it was something different that needed repair and each time, it cost $100. Finally, in June 2017, it seemed that the unit was finally repaired after many repair visits. I thought this would be the end, however, the a/c unit needs repairing again, one year later. I submitted another service request, and paid another $100. It seems as if I might as well replace the unit myself since, at the rate we are going, all these $100 payments will soon total the amount another unit costs. If this unit is not repaired or replaced, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Scheduled service w/ AHS online when AC unit stopped working last November - this is in a high-rise in Miami where AC is a must! First company they scheduled failed to show or call three times! Nine days pass with no AC and son who is an EMT/paramedic w/ a crazy schedule is jumping thru hoops to get the time off to meet these repeated no shows, so with zero confidence the company is ever going to show I set an alarm to wake at 3:00 am to call AHS because calling during the day meant at least a two hour hold time! I finally get thru at 3 am and despite the no shows I still have to BEG them to schedule a different AC company. (They said we had to give the 1st co the opportunity to make it right - really? Three times??).
The 2nd company they scheduled did show and managed to get the unit working again - but the fix didn't last. (And we suspect it only lasted as long as it did due to the cooler winter temps putting less demand on it - that and the fact that we use it much less in the winter.) Fast forward, unit gets progressively worse, we schedule w/ AHS, more band aid/temp fixes and now July 2018 - unit will not cool below 80! Again, this is in a high rise in MIAMI w/ ambient temps in the high 90s and max humidity! Call AHS again - begged and begged for a diff company since the other failed to fix it (their policy is that the same co must do the callback). Finally they agree to send a diff company - tech arrives, does some inspection and tells us the unit needs to be replaced and that he will discuss his findings w/ his office and call back.
We never hear from him again so again call AHS - they send the 2nd company back out... That tech says there is a clog, which he cleans out, but that pressures are normal, freon is good and the temps coming out are as they should be. He says "give it time, it will cool down over the next few hours." Fyi, they say this EVERY TIME!!! Not one time has the unit started to cool as if it has been fixed while they are still present!! Out of pure frustration after this most recent visit we paid out of pocket for a service call w/ another company - they arrived two hours after the AHS company and said the unit had multiple issues and likely needed to be replaced. (It is 10 years old.)
At this point we are still dealing w/ AHS in hopes that will replace or at least properly repair the unit as that IS the point of the warranty! Given the horrible reviews for every company AHS has sent out, I wonder if the business model is to just make the quick visit and collect the fees from AHS with no intention of doing more involved repairs? AHS was recommended by our trusted realtor, shame on me for not doing more research. I saw the positive reviews on the AHS site (which now are shocking to me!) and felt comfortable, I've since looked deeper and suspect Yelp and Google paint a more accurate picture.
Updated on 07/11/2018: I previously posted a 1 star negative review for AHS, they replied to my review asking if they could contact me to resolve it - I replied yes but of course, I've heard nothing! A few days later I receive another email with the same wording, again I say, "Yes, please contact me." It has now been five days and I've yet to hear from them but I now see above my review is a line that reads "resolution in progress." I haven't heard from anyone and I can assure you, there is NO RESOLUTION in progress. I wonder if they reply in order to get a response so that they can label the negative reviews "resolution in progress" and have it appear as if they are genuinely working in good faith to resolve complaints. ConsumerAffairs needs to look into this.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioner but it wasn’t handled as fast as I would have liked it to be. It was a hit or miss with the customer service representative. I called in four times during the process in one day. I contacted the company and they put it back on American Home Shield. So there were a lot of ringing around and chasing and I wasn’t very pleased with the AHS customer service that I was dealing with.
But the contractor was pretty good. He came out, assess the issue and told me what was wrong. He said he was going to submit the claim but it took them forever to submit it to AHS. He came out on Thursday and my AC was working halfway decently. I was at least getting some cold air coming out but it was just flaky. After he came out, my AC completely went out the very next day. I called them back to let them know and it was downhill from there. I went about two weeks without AC.
I had some issues submitting the claim. One guy said he submitted it, but AHS said that they didn’t get it. So I was calling both companies back and forth. Eventually, the AC got fixed. It doesn’t feel like it’s cooling like how it was initially but because I'm on a bottom floor, I can’t really tell if it’s now functioning again or if it's because of some other reason. So I'm trying to give it a few more days to see if I can tell the difference before I reach back out to the contractor.

American Home Shield is more inclusive and the best among several different companies that I saw on the market at the time I got a home warranty. I’ve been with them between two and three years. I went through them last April 1 when my Lennox heat pump wouldn’t start. They sent out a company who made 15 service calls but could never fix the heat pump. They didn’t know much about Lennox. So, I told American Home Shield that I was through with the company and to get me somebody else that knows something about heat pumps. They referred me to Furnace Doctor that was knowledgeable of Lennox and they found the problem but they got the wrong parts. They replaced the wiring and everything in it.
Furnace Doctor made five visits but yesterday, they gave up. They finally said that there was some kind of restriction in it so they’re gonna pull the unit and put in a new unit. They did that and the heat pump has been working fine in the last 24 hours. It’s a huge relief as it has been up to 90 degrees. I usually go online when submitting a claim to AHS and it is very simple. They respond fairly quick but it depends on the contractor that it ends up a week before AHS can get an appointment with a contractor.
I dealt with the regular service reps at American Home Shield for a while and when they recognized that the issue was getting to the point where it needed to be escalated, they put me in touch with Amy in the executive relations who was wonderful to work with. I wrote to her supervisor an email telling him she needed a raise. Also, I’ve recommended AHS to several friends and I told them that home insurance makes a lot of sense especially if the appliances are older. I’ve lived in the house since 1988 and all of my appliances are aging. It’s a matter of time until I have problems with them. But I would suggest that AHS needs to screen their contractors a little more carefully.

I called in a plumbing issue to American Home Shield as the cold water was coming out but the hot side wasn't. The contractor was knowledgeable because he said that it was just a lot of stuff that was caught up on the line. He fixed the problem but the water was leaking after. So, they said they needed a part to stop it from leaking and they would come back out. When my wife called them back, they said they were still waiting on the part. It's been three weeks now, but they still haven’t fixed it.
Also, with American Home Shield, sometimes I have to wait even if it’s an emergency like the one time when we had a baby in our house and there was no AC. American Home Shield has gotten so large that the customer would have to wait until whenever they would say so and not with the customer’s needs. I understand there'd be some times when they couldn't do it but there have been times where they were having really negative attitudes about it. But the past couple of times, they've been okay.

My time with American Home Shield was absolutely the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had in my life. If you want to place an order for a service call it’s gonna cost you $75 per service request in addition to whatever the premium is. That’s a bit annoying and it seems a little stiff. Secondly, you get two options for placing that order, one of them is online and one is via phone. If you go online, you’re given a very generic, limited selection from which to indicate what the service issue is and you can’t pick more than a couple per section without having to do an additional $75 fee. So, if you have four different electrical issues and you want to have them looked at all at once, AHS won’t let you do that. They force you to do more than one $75 fee.
Then there are some weird glitches with their online system as well where you’re trying to it fill out and something doesn’t apply to you at all and you’re not sure what to do next. Also, if you have nobody ever show up and you wanna make sure that you don’t ever get bills, they set the system up so you cannot remove you’re routing number on your bank account, so there’s no way to avoid the charge. They will not let you remove it online. You can add a payment source but you can’t remove one which is annoying. If you make the phone call, you’re looking at at least a 30-minute wait. Nobody has that kind of time.
Then as far as the service themselves, they will contract you to the bottom of the barrel as far as contractors are concerned. I had one good experience and I had about five service calls. As of now, I have been waiting a month and a half to have a toilet that needs to be replaced, replaced. I can’t get the contractor to call me and I can’t get them to do anything. I keep leaving messages for the contractor begging him to call me back. I took off work three days and waited and he didn’t show up. One time, he said that he was on his way and he still didn’t show up. So, I called American Home Shield and they told me that they would resubmit the ticket. I told them that I want a different contractor assigned and they refused. Then I asked for a manager. I got the manager on the line and he sounded like a hillbilly that just is calling to tell me he has won the lottery.
He was annoying as hell and I explained the situation to him and he was the biggest mental midget I’ve ever heard in my life and I have no patience for that. After a month and a half of having a ceiling that collapsed and a toilet that is wrecked where I can’t flush, I was frustrated. I wasn’t getting anywhere with this idiot. He told me that he’d have somebody call me and I still have not heard from the contractor and from AHS. My contract with them is up relatively soon and they actually made a call the same day asking me to renew with them. It wasn’t the person’s fault that called me but I told him that I’m not even close.
Also, AHS has all kinds of exclusions and crap. For example, the toilet and our pipes that were contributing to my bathroom ceiling falling in, it's a bathroom above a bathroom and I poked the ceiling and a chunk of stuff came out because it had different leaks up there. I climbed up to look and pulled down a little bit of plaster. Then the contractor got there and told me that the toilet needs to be replaced. He fixed the pipes which was good. Then I’m talking to this idiot from AHS on the phone and he told me that the ceiling wouldn’t be covered and that it would only be covered if the contractor cut it out. I told him that the contractor was gonna have to cut it out as there was no other access without going through there and the ceiling was falling out. He then told me that I was the one that pulled it out and not the contractor. Are you kidding me? My experience with American Home Shield was horrible.

I keep asking the techs if they were snaking the drains out to the street or were they clogged somewhere 10 feet from the house. They said that they were snaking the drains out for me, but they didn’t really do anything. They plunged them and that was it. Then the next day after they left, the toilets was backed up again. And sometimes they backed up without paper.
Then I was told that they’re old toilets, but I don’t get that. They’re old, but both toilets are doing the same thing. Also, the techs couldn’t see anything wrong with the toilets but they didn’t wanna remove it and check if there’s something stuck in it. They told me that if it’s something that isn’t supposed to be there, then I have to pay for that service for $200 extra as it’s not something that’s covered by American Home Shield. But it can’t be that the upstairs and downstairs toilet has something in them. So far, my husband had to plunge the toilets again and if they back up, then I’d have to call AHS out again. On the day before, the contractor would give us an idea when they're coming. They would also text and call when they're about to leave their previous job and are on their way.

I have a 14 year-old house and as my major appliances aged, I wanted somebody who was going to cover me for whatever reason. American Home Shield looked like a good bet. I talked to some friends who had some AHS experience and did research. Thereafter, I decided to give them a try. Recently, we bought a water filter for our fridge which we routinely change every 180 days. I thought I was ordering the actual parts but then we got a knock off. What we got was slightly different and it was enough to upset the marrying of it with the fridge. I went out and got a real Samsung filter but that still didn't cure the problem. So, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. They put in contact with the folks who were going to do the maintenance, I called them and give them a better description so they would be better prepared when they came out here.
The contractor was diligent about getting a hold of me and putting a little bit of phone tag because they were a little ahead of schedule. Still, that wasn't quite convenient so we worked together and they finally got out to my place at the time they promised. Their guy assessed the problem and had to order a part. But then, he got back quicker than he estimated and solved my problem before I left on a trip. Since the repair, the fridge has been good. My wife talked to the technician and said that he was courteous and respective. He stayed on task and was in and out as he should be. Our fridge wasn't old and it shouldn't be having any issues but then it had just fallen out of warranty. Still, AHS helped cover my lapse in coverage and I'm pretty happy with it. I had to pay $100 for the service but then I'd probably pay that for each appliance every year for the warranty. Overall, I recommend American Home Shield.

Nevertheless, the tech was good and took care of the issue in a timely manner. He told me what the problem was and he showed me what happened. He was able to fix the AC and do some maintenance work as well. But I had to pay extra for the maintenance and the liquid that he put in. But I would recommend American Home Shield.

We've been with American Home Shield in this house for five years and we also have them in our other house for 17 years. And we would not be in a house without them. I tell people all the time that they have to have home insurance like AHS because it's phenomenal. They are fantastic and always dependable. When our pool pump overheated, I went online to file a claim and it went great. AHS sent out an excellent contractor to repair the pool pump and since the repair was done, the pool pump is working perfectly.

I used to be a technician for AHS for about 13 years. I was on the other end, getting paid and I was happy. And then I got to be their customer for my three rental properties. When the AC unit outside failed, I had a good experience submitting the claim. The first guy they sent wasn't able to fix it and he was charging an emergency fee because it was a weekend. I called AHS and they said they would just send somebody else. I was out of town and when I spoke to the renter, he said the contractor came that very same day and got the AC working.

The contractors from Air Smith Pro were very good and they fixed my AC problem. Everything was done by either back and forth on the computer or by texting. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield.
