I had smelled gas one day and when the gas company came out, they said they thought I had an igniter that had gone out. I placed the call with American Home Shield online and it was really easy. The site was great because I just entered something in and it automatically got distributed. Then the contractor was out the next day. He was very nice, courteous and fast. He had the part with him and he had it ready so it took him a very short time to replace it. He took care of the problem and was out of here. It was my first claim and I was really pleased with it. It was really easy and I loved it. The AHS warranty is a great thing to have.

It has been enjoyable having American Home Shield and I have them for two years now. I recently had an AC issue, so I went online to submit the claim and it was pretty straightforward. AHS sent people from Carolina Air and they were professional, on time, and courteous. They were also clean and they got everything fixed.

American Home Shield is a good company to get an insurance on your appliance that you need and the service is great. I filed a claim for an oven repair. I did that online and AHS's site was user-friendly. The contractor was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He first said it would take six to seven weeks for the part to come. But then, he called me and said they got the part. And he came in and did it on a Monday morning, which was about three weeks after the claim was filed.

We had a problem with the heat pump not coming on and there was no difficulty submitting the claim to AHS for it. But there was a bit of a disconnect because the website said that the service fee of $75 would be due when the technician arrived. However, the technician said that there was no money due and that he wasn't to collect any. He didn't leave us a statement of what had been done and so I ended up calling the company because I like to have something for my record or email. My record is about what exactly AHS prepared and that I don't owe them money.
They wrote back and said that it was all taken care of and gave me the note about what happened. Moreover, they said they don't give an invoice unless they have to charge me money. That seemed really strange to me and I thought they can't possibly be free. I asked a little further about what was going on and they said AHS now collects directly from the customer rather than having the customer pay the contractor. The website didn't say anything about that and a couple of days later, we had gotten a notice in the mail saying that our payment was overdue. We had known about it so we paid for it. The only glitch with the system was knowing what AHS expected of us. If they were charging a card on file, then fine, but we didn't know about it.
Also a number of years back, there was one appliance technician that was assigned to take care of a problem. He came out, looked at the overheating refrigerator, gave me a whole bunch of assignments and then he left. He collected the fee and said he was gonna order parts. He hasn't done a diagnostic on it and he was off doing other things. He wouldn't tell us when he was coming back and he had no confidence that his snapshot diagnosis of the problem was gonna fix things. We asked AHS to transfer the service call to another technician. It took a bit of back and forth with AHS for them to finally do that. That was not a Home Shield problem but it was a problem of the contractor – except where we got stuck having to pay a fee twice and then we had to apply to be reimbursed. And that was a fair amount of hassle.
The first guy had gotten all upset about this and we have made a point of not having him back on any of our other jobs. But we were perfectly satisfied with the technician who came out to fix the refrigerator problem. We've had American Home Shield for about 20 years and the service fee keeps going up, which is to be expected. I think a little harder now about trying to fix the problem myself or having AHS come out. However, we've been generally happy with them. We don't have to call them too often and we're happy to do so when the time comes.

I was putting my house on the market and I was doing all kinds of stuff. I had brand new remotes for my two garage doors and I was unable to program them. It turned out that the motherboards were gone on both of them. Also, one of the garage doors wasn’t working. It would go up but it wouldn't go down. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they sent a guy from Garage Door Solutions. His name was Jason and he was a great guy. It was the second time that I had him there because when the other side door had gone out, he also fixed that. So, Jason and I got to know each other. He fixed my garage doors and in the last five days that I was there at the house, I enjoyed the heck out of my garage doors. Being able to drive my cars in and out of the one that had gone out was fabulous.
Then one time, the inspector for the buyers who were buying the home determined that the attic fan wasn’t working. So, I had to have an electrician come out to look at that. At the time, I already moved out of the house and someone else was living there. So, I took time off work to be there for the appointment. The guys went up there and they determined what we already knew, that the attic fan wasn’t working, but they had to call AHS back to see if the problematic piece of the equipment was covered. They were on hold for quite some time and I'm sure they got other jobs to do besides waiting around in my upstairs for AHS to answer the phone.
I understand that they have to follow a protocol but I had a copy of my AHS contract at the time and I showed them that the contract was saying that the equipment was covered. I didn't know why the representative on the other end of the line couldn't see that it was right there in black and white and I wondered why she had to talk to a supervisor about it. So it delayed the repair and I had to come back again another day once they got the approval that that part was indeed covered. So as a consumer, I get the trickle-down effect of that on somebody else. If somebody goes to do another job and they're supposed to be at my house at a certain time, they can't get there because their technician's on hold for 30 minutes trying to get an approval. So, besides the long wait time on the phone, that part of the process is something that's got to be streamlined.
When I sent in a review, I suggested to AHS that when they assign a contractor to do a job, they should already send that contractor a snippet of the contract. They don’t need the entire contract, but AHS could copy and paste a section of it into an email or whatever to the company so that they have a list of what is covered. That would avoid that phone call and the delay for the customer and the contractor. Everybody would be a lot happier because that contractor would already know what's covered.
I had AHS for the 10 years that I've been in the house and I would always submit my claims over the phone. The wait time on hold could be pretty rough. Then in the past year, I started using their online process and it was fantastic and beyond easy. Within seconds, I got a text that said who had been assigned to me. Then, within 24 hours, I got contacted by the contractor that was gonna come out. And within the time that I had AHS, they sent some people out with whom I've been less than happy with. But in the recent month besides Jason and the electrician, I had other contractors come out and they were great. I also submitted a claim for a plumbing issue and I called for the air conditioner as well but American Home Shield only pays $10 of the Freon.
All in all, American Home Shield was useful but with some added changes in their customer service, they could be outstanding. Also, I was more happy with the contractors that were sent out than I was necessarily happy with American Home Shield. I would not recommend AHS and if I bought another home today, I would not go with American Home Shield. There are too many competitors out there now that are doing things that other people are using.

Our A/C was freezing up and the outside unit was making a lot of noise. I submitted a claim online to AHS and the process was very easy and quick. I got the number for the contractor that was coming and then I talked to them. The tech came in, checked out the system and told me I had a small leak. Then he applied some sealant and put some extra coolant or anti-freeze, the R22 that they had, and set it up. The noise stopped and the air conditioners are now working fine so everything’s good. The contractor did great. However, the website page was saying that I did not have to pay anything but then the contractor asked me for a $75 fee. So I was confused but I paid it off.
AHS is doing pretty good but they should let the homeowners know that they may be charged extra fees by whoever comes and serves them. The contractor added pressure into the A/C compressor by adding the Freon so that could be why they charged that extra fee. And I don’t think that was covered on the contract itself. Nevertheless, AHS is worth it and it’s great. We just bought a new house and we requested AHS for the new house and the owners paid for it.

I submitted a claim for an AC issue recently and got scammed. In the contract it said that they have to check, clean and repair any AC issues. I had a separate one in my garage that was blowing hot air and never worked properly, yet they didn’t do anything to it. I was expecting to pay my $75 call cost and I understand that some things aren’t covered. But their idea was to install another R-22 unit and it was still gonna cost me $1200, $460 of which was in Freon. So I went with the smart option instead to replace both the inside and the outside units with the new Freon system, and it cost me $4300. I got $1000 towards it but still the warranty didn’t help me all that much. They use really cheap contractors. The idea behind the warranty is great but when you have a real issue, you’re still paying a ton of money out-of-pocket.
Good afternoon Jordan,
I understand your concerns with the most recent service claim that was placed to have your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address your experience and the replacement that was completed.

American Home Shield's online site was easy enough to use for filing a claim. I had one for electric and the other one was for having the locks changed, and the service was very good. The lock guy did a very good job. But it turned out that I didn't need anything for the electrical. When I had plugged a lamp into the wall, the plug fell out. But I should have realized that if I had expanded the plug a little bit, it would have been fine. It cost me $75 to find that out but I understand that before they even walk through the door, they're gonna charge you something in most cases. But that was okay. I learned and I won't do that again. I think the warranty's a very good investment. I have a hot water heater that is close to 20 years old and it's way overdue. I'm praying that I really don't have to do that one but if I do, I've got the warranty.

I have used AHS twice and it was nice knowing that it's there. My air conditioner wasn’t cooling, and so I submitted a claim online. The website was user-friendly and I had a fine experience navigating through it. The friendly technician came the next day and he let us know what he was doing and what we could do in the future to help. It’s worth the comfort of knowing that you have protection if you need it.

I moved in here about 10 years ago and I didn’t find out about American Home Shield until a little bit later, but I caught on to it after a while because there were a number of things that have happened that I wasn’t aware of. I noticed, however, that the monthly fee has gone up. It was about $57 before and now it's $75. But that has been since over the years.
I had a plumbing claim when the water heater went off and there was no hot water for two weeks. I called American Home Shield and Infinity Plumbing came out. They found out that there was a problem with the electrical plug that was part of it and they had to replace the water heater. And I thought they had found that out when they first put it in because we weren’t getting any hot water. At first, I called them out a couple of times and the next thing I knew, some other guy came in and replaced the plug. He was very pleasant about it and he went to see what the problem was. And then he had to go out to get a part and come back. I asked about the issue because he wrote up a report on the water heater and it was submitted somewhere, but I didn’t get a copy of that report. And although the water is fine now, I’ve been having problems with the flow of my water. I’m not getting a strong pressure.
Nevertheless, I'd tell my friends to check out American Home Shield. I’ve also suggested it to my sister who's in California. But she was here during those times when I needed to take care of the things that needed to be replaced and done around here. And she has seen the contractors when they came in. I’ve had the dishwasher and the range replaced and I’ve had a number of things done because this house has begun to wear down. And on and on, American Home Shield's service has been good.

The contractor from Unified Electric was very professional and he fixed the problem.

Every contractor that American Home Shield sent out to me was great and really good at giving you the right amount of time to get to the location where you need to get to. So, you're still able to maintain your work-life balance because you don't have to be at a specific location for half a day. Then, they do exactly what it is that they need to do. Their warranties are really good. My most recent claim was for my garbage disposal and I submitted it through American Home Shield's website and the site was super user-friendly. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield as a great insurance to have, especially when you're purchasing a home and you don't really know what you're getting into.

We moved into the new house and on the first day we were in there, the tech came out and re-keyed the locks. That was one of the things that’s covered by our American Home Shield warranty and submitting that claim with them was very easy. I gave them a call then they called the contractor. After that, the locksmith called me and we set up the time for them to come out.
He was very professional and he gave some good suggestions. We were trying to figure out if we wanted all of the locks to be the same, and there was one that we needed to change out so that he could make one key to fit all of them. So, he set us up very well and he was here for about 45 minutes to an hour. He did exactly what we wanted him to do and he took care of business. He also tested every key before he gave them to us and we’ve not had any problem since he came out. We had a second claim for a plumbing issue and it was also handled very well. So, we’ve been very happy with American Home Shield so far.
Good morning Mark,

It is our pleasure to exceed your expectations and provide you with an additional peace of mind to your new home. I hope that you continue to enjoy your warranty with AHS!

We had 20 different keys for all the locks in this house, and part of American Home Shield’s warranty service was provision of seven of those being included as part of a lump sum fee. So we went through AHS to have our locks re-keyed and it was for a heavily-discounted rate. And then we did the rest of the locks with them, too. The locksmith came out a couple of days after I called AHS, and he was professional and did a good job.
We had some serious issues with another one of AHS's contractors. An AC contractor came out twice on two different calls for the same thing. And on the second call, he capped our overflow lines for our central AC and flooded our kitchen. But we have wet drywall in our kitchen now that has not been repaired yet. We called them 10 times on Saturday and then finally got someone to come out. They sent a technician out on Monday to correct the damage that the other technician had made to our system, and then said that somebody would contact us about the wet drywall. And we haven’t heard from anybody yet. I’ll give them a couple of days. And then I’m gonna go to their office personally and stay in there until they fix it. It should have never come to that for such a simple repair.

American Home Shield's online requesting system works very well and it's very easy to use. But we had some issues a while back on a billing situation where they kept trying to bill me for a service I didn’t have. One other time before that, they had dispatched an electrician for a plumbing problem and then tried to charge me for the next call out. I appreciate everyone wanting to get paid but that wasn’t my fault. I had put in the correct issue and the wrong type of contractor was dispatched. I had to fight a lot on the phone and make a couple of different calls to get it sorted out. That was not ideal but I've found that the actual service, when something is wrong, is done quickly and well. And that was why I stayed as customer.
One time, the contractor missed the original call window that I was promised. It was 100 degrees and my air conditioning was not working so it was quite urgent. I appreciate that they were probably very busy though. Still, I followed up and they got out here within a couple of days. It's been working perfectly since the repair. Overall, my experience with the warranty has been easy, effective and without headaches.

The AC wasn't coming on, so I submitted a claim and it was good. AHS sent Three Brothers A/C Heating and they were great! They came in, did what they needed to do and left. They were professional and they put on something on their feet so they won't get the house dirty. However, I also had a microwave request and I wasn't impressed. AHS sent somebody and they weren't able to order the necessary parts. And they told me I was responsible that's why the wrong item was ordered when taking the measurements or whatever is needed to replace the item should have been done by the technician. But overall, AHS saved people who are not handy the headache of dealing with different contractors. It's great to have some place I can call and make sure that things are taken care of.

I heard water dripping in the ceiling so I thought there might have been a leak. So I submitted a claim through American Home Shield's website and navigating through it was super easy. The contractor called to make an appointment and they said they could come the following day. But I wasn’t available so they set my schedule which was a couple of days later. And when he came, I had a great interaction with him. It was quick and easy. He asked me what exactly was going on and he said he thought he knew what it was but we'd play with it and see. So I went upstairs and turned on the water and he listened to it. Then he explained that what I was hearing was the water moving through the pipe. The different temperatures make different sounds and there wasn't actually a drip. Having the warranty is definitely worth it and I will definitely use that contractor again. So far, American Home Shield has been really easy to deal with and I’d recommend them.

Three years in a row my heating element went out and I had to call American Home Shield to get someone to come out here. Every time Sears went out, they said that the part was a malfunctioning part and not a good one and could cause a fire, yet that part was still being put in my dryer. It's expected to go out in the next few months, usually when it starts to get cold and I can't hang out clothes anywhere.
My most recent claim was my oven. I'm a baker and every time I made cakes or pies, my cakes were never done even though they had cooked for a whole hour. Sears came out on that and the tech said that it sticks. In a few months there was no cake for they were coming out raw. So I called again and this time the contractor did something on the computer and the computer was talking back to him doing something. The tech said the oven was off 200 degrees and to get it regulated they had to get it to set and hold the right temperature. It didn't make sense to me but that fixed it.
My aggravation was I wasted time and money on the service right before that when they told me it sticks. The Sears guy did not know he was supposed to go through this computer thing to make the temperature when they got it set where it should be. I've got to go to this procedure to make it stay. I wasted my money and that man did not know how to repair it and I had to go through that process again. But it's fixed now and it's working beautifully. The American Home Shield reps were also knowledgeable. I would recommend AHS to my friends.

My first claim to AHS was for my water heater. It was originally with the house from 1987. It was running good and then all of a sudden, it started to smell like propane. The claim was a 24-hour turnover and the people who came were in with a new water heater. They were phenomenal. Shortly thereafter, within the same week, my air conditioner stopped working. When I originally filed the claim for it, I was assigned a certain person to come out but nobody had called me for two days. I then called the number that was provided for this company that was supposedly going to help and I was told that they were not able to solve that claim as I was outside of their range. I had to re-file the claim and that was when I got assigned to this other company.
This unfriendly man came out and he told me it was going to take two weeks for the part to come in because it was on backorder which was fine and understandable. It was just that it was so hot in Iowa so I was pretty darn miserable for a couple of weeks. But the two gentlemen who came out on Tuesday were very friendly and the air conditioner was fixed.
I've been very happy with the service of AHS. They're prompt and easy to use too. My only complaint was that nobody informed me when that first guy was unable to repair my air conditioner, so that added about an extra week between filing the claim, talking to him, and then filing another claim and waiting for somebody to contact me. I went close to three weeks without an air conditioner. Other than that, everything was handled very well. The online process was super slick and I appreciate that it was easy to pay online. Also, the local rep when I initially started to have issues with the air conditioning company was able to talk to me and he was very good.

The water heater was on its last leg. The pilot light wouldn’t stay lit at all times. I was told that it kept shutting because it's old. They only last for about 10 years and mine was 14 years already, so we had to change it. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone to look at the water heater. They had an automated system this time. The first time I had called for my washing machine, I was able to speak with a live person. The reps that time were quick and my service came the very next day.
I liked the three contractors that came for my heater. The first one was Carlos and he was really good. He explained to me and I didn’t feel uncomfortable asking. He was very responsive and he knew exactly what was going on. He was able to fix it for that evening, but the pilot light went off again so AHS had to send another tech. The tech who replaced the water heater was also awesome. But it was unfortunate that I had to replace it. Nobody likes to spend a lot of money when it comes to repairs and to buy a new one.
Every time I call AHS, there'll be a $100 for them to send a contractor out. I wish it would be less than that because they fixed the washer, but after a few months, I just bought a new washer because it was on its last leg. I said I'm not gonna call American Home Shield again to have them fix it and spend $100. I could buy a washer for $400. But other than that, the warranty is great to have especially for people who don’t know anything about repairs. Even if they look through Google, it's just really good to have a live person look at the issue and tell you what's wrong. Also, AHS is very quick in putting the service.

But the contractor had a crappy truck and bad attitude, and he wasn't professional. He was hemming and hawing, and he was trying to do everything he could to get out of doing the repair. The way our houses are built, to get to my second story, we had to go into my neighbor's yard. My neighbor is wonderful and I said I could knock on her door and she’d let us in. The contractor said my AC was low on Freon. But it's the same thing with Freon in an AC in a house as in a car. If something’s missing, there's a very good chance there’s a leak. But he just looked my AC over for a few seconds, stuck Freon in it, charged me an extra $200, and went out the door. I’m assuming the 2 pounds of Freon at $100 a pound that he said he put in my AC is what he really put in there because I wasn’t up there on the roof with him and I didn’t see the weight of the can before he went up, although he showed me its weight when he got down. Nevertheless, everything seems to be working okay since the repair was done a couple of weeks ago.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for three years and so far, I have really been impressed with them and I’ve recommended them to several of our friends. We had a refrigerator go out on us and they replaced it. I’ve also had a really good experience with them this time with the air conditioning. We had a weird problem because it concerned a part in the condenser. The AC would work for two or three days then all of a sudden, go back and blow the fuse. We even had to have the power company come out and check it. It was awfully warm during that time and HD Plumbing had to come out several times. But every time I called them back to redo this thing, they were there within a few hours. I was really impressed.
They finally figured out what it was. My computer thermostat was the problem. But we were out of town when I got a message on my computer. I called HD and they made arrangements to meet somebody. When we got back, the problem had been corrected. It was an excellent experience. I’ve used another company for years but HD sure sold me. The only complaint I have with American Home Shield is the fact that when you call in, the wait seems to be tremendous at times. They can't seem to be able to figure out how many calls they're gonna have and what the deal is. I usually file claims by phone because it's easier for me. I generally feel more comfortable that way. That is what happens when you deal with old people. I’m also retired so I have time to sit and wait for the service rep to come on. But if American Home Shield can do something better, it would probably be helpful.

The slide on our dishwasher broke. My wife then submitted a claim with American Home Shield and she was happy with it. An appointment was made and the contractor came. He had the part that was needed in his truck and it was fixed the same day. We've also used AHS for the dryer drum recently and our complaint with that was, the contractor didn't have the part in his truck. He said it was a common part, which made it stranger because if it was a common part, you'd think they would stock it. He also told us that we can't use the dryer until he came back and that was a week and a half.
There was another time when we filed a claim for the original AC unit that was in our house and the contractors seemed like they were looking for ways to deny it. They said that the motor was dirty because the unit is 25 years old. But I could see and I know that maintenance is done because I keep my maintenance since it is required by our contract. I think if I didn't have that they would have just been, “Yeah, I know. That’s on you to put a $700 motor.” So I understand why some people might be pissed where it seems that they’re trying to get out of paying the play. Also, I’ve heard other people say that instead of replacing things AHS would just keep trying to fix it even though they know it’s broken. Still, the guys replaced the motor and the outside parts and they fixed the unit.

My wife and I bought our first home together and decided insure it through AHS the first year since it was an older house. We did end up filing 5 complaints over the year, creating around 1,100 dollars in expenses. Most of the issues ended up being small, things I could have done on my own probably with 20-100 dollars. The issues with AC and that company is the only reason I will giving a second star. The 3 complaints handled by 2 Electrical and Plumbing companies were awful experiences, and I am going through one right now.
Recently, about May I noticed a heavy drip coming from my discharge hose and started hearing a whistle coming from the PRV, which would spray some scalding hot water with the slightest touch. I also believe it was flipping itself. So we filed with AHS and they sent out Rapp's Heating and Plumbing located a state away. I showed the technician the water pooling in my crawlspace from it and he said the PRV needed to be changed but he didn't have one on him. Then, he switched it up and said that I needed to relieve the PRV once a day for 2 weeks and see if that stopped or slowed it down. To give him a call and he'd run right back out and swap it if he needed too.
Well, 2 and half weeks later my steady drip is like barely turning the faucet on, so I called him back only to be told that I needed to refile with AHS because he already changed the valve and if it was doing it again then we just needed to replace the whole water heater. As nice as that is, that's insurance fraud. So I tell him he didn't change it and asked why he lied to me, but he hung up on me. So I called Rapp's only for the woman on the phone to call the technician and he relayed what he told me. She goes on to tell me that he reported that there wasn't any visible leak to AHS, which I only laughed and asked to speak to the owner. My AHS warranty went dead last week, and now they wouldn't help me either. The pour coming out of the pipe in photo was almost as bad as it now...and the plumber said I don't have a leak.
The time before this I had a leak in the toilet and the technician who worked for himself came out and was contracted through Rapps charged me an extra 80 dollars for a floater because AHS didn't cover parts. I found out that I had been had from that plumper when the HVAC came out and replaced every part in my AC Unit, except Freon. I know some of this isn't AHS, but they contract these crooks to come out and fix our homes who are probably not only robbing us, the customer, but AHS too.

When American Home Shield sends out a contractor, you need to make sure that the contractor is reputable! My father and step-mother live near Beaumont and American Home Shield sent a plumber from Spring, Texas, (K&G Services) to repair their water heater. The plumber charged them $800, even though the contract with American Home Shield is suppose to be $75. The plumbers were using foul language and tore up their house, cutting into walls, etc. The plumbers did not clean up their mess, leaving my handicapped father and stepmother to clean up the mess!
When American Home Shield was contacted, they said there was nothing that they could do. When K&G Services was contacted, they said they would refund them $200; however, they never sent the refund and K&G Services is not taking their phone calls. Several years ago, we had American Home Shield and they sent several unreputable contractors out to my house, so we finally canceled our warranty with them!

We had an ejector pump begin to fail around 11:00pm on a Thursday evening. I called immediately and requested to have an elevated or emergency service call placed as we had sewage running up the drain (basement shower, and around pump). They gave me the name of the contractor they selected and told me they would call in 4-24 hours. I called the contractor the following morning with my reference number to see if they were able to get out on Friday to fix the issue as I can't have the possibility of water coming up in the basement. The contractor told me they wouldn't be able to come out until the Monday (3 days later). I called AHS back and asked them to find me another contractor that would be able to service the issue the same day. They informed me that all their contractors were busy and were not going to be able to service this but I could check back in 2-3 hours to see if there were any openings (what would be midday Friday).
I told them to cancel my service request and another plumbing company can come out during the day Friday to identify the issue (free of charge) I might add and fix same day. Why is it that AHS can't expedite issues or allow consumers to use the emergency service when there are major issues or threatening issues in their homes. Most heating/plumbing and cooling companies offer round the clock service (or weekends at a minimum) but AHS doesn't seem to dispatch to them. We've used AHS before with great (albeit slow) service for non-emergency issues but I expect better when the risk for flooding sewage is creeping up.

He told me that he would come and install new ones. And he told me to do a cash out thing and to go buy some fans, which I did. But he never came back. He said American Home Shield closed the thing. He lied to me. Sometimes, I question the quality of AHS' repair people and I wish it wasn't so expensive but I would hate to be without it. When you have an older house, it just makes sense to have it and I would recommend it.

I called them up to submit the claim. The reps helped me in noting down what the issues were and they raised the invoice. Later, I got the emails or text messages saying when the technician would come and what company would take care of the issues. The tech came and looked at it and he thought he fixed it. He closed it, but we had to have him come back a couple of days later. I filed another claim with American Home Shield, so they had him come back and then he thought he figured it out. I did the first claim online and did the second one on the phone. I was trying to talk to someone to see if I had to pay the $100 again. But, I just went through the automated thing and didn't end up talking to anyone.
However, the contractor sent out was really nice, he keeps coming back trying to figure out the issue because the unit is not fixed yet. They came back yesterday morning so that they could climb up in the attic and check everything. He told me to go outside if it stops again and see if the fan is running. If it’s not running, then he knows that he needs to replace that fan, and that’s the plan today. I would tell my friends to get AHS. We had Home Club before, but they were awful.

Whenever I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I usually do it online as it is easier than sitting on hold or waiting for someone to answer. The recent claim we had was for our air conditioner. It was a short quick repair and AHS covered it. The air conditioner guy was great too. Then, we had a plumbing issue where the main water valve broke and I didn’t have water for three days. AHS didn’t cover the claim because it was outside the slab and the plumber they sent was terrible. He was supposed to follow up with me and it took them 24 hours to follow up. At that point, I called another plumbing company. Also, earlier this year, my water heater went out and I didn’t have hot water. AHS took three days to approve a new water heater for me and the time that it took to approve everything was excessive.

They did call once but they didn't leave a message. I just saw the number there so I called and called and left messages to get an appointment but I never got anything back. Also, I filed a claim online but the process was a bit confusing as they gave you different options. My unit wasn't working and I didn't know if it was the air-conditioning or the duct. They wanted me to know what was wrong but I didn't know so I chose air conditioning.
However, since I was not getting anything back from the provider, AHS assigned me to another provider. They told me the contractors were gonna call during the first 24-hours and I never got the callback. But because AHS provided me with the contact information, I called and scheduled the appointment. The guy they sent over was very cordial and he explained everything to us. It was terrific. Since the repair, the air conditioner has been working fine. Overall, while my experience with AHS was okay, they could be better.

Our AC unit was not cooling the house as it should. I submitted the claim online with AHS and I was able to do it quickly. I simply typed in the contract number, the address and the specific problem. They had a list of appliances and I went down to AC and checked it off. In less than 24 hours, they referred me to an AC company which emailed me back with when they would be here. The guy from the AC company came out on that day, contacted me and discussed with me what he found. The house was built way back in the early ‘80s and back then, we didn't have the temperature change because of climate change and we didn’t have the kind of heat waves that we have now. So, now the efficiency is way down below par. I walked in and it was like a furnace is cooking.
To me, the house was built in older times and I needed to upgrade its system, but the AC man said that the system that it came with was installed, but in order for us to upgrade it, there would have to be something that was broken like the compressor or the condenser and there’s really nothing broken. He said that it needed an air filter and he installed a thermostat. He went beyond what most people would do, was honest as he could be and I was happy with the service he provided. I’m still not happy with the AC. But the company is good and I would recommend them because of their experience and the personalities were very good.
American Home Shield has some competition out there that are offering some of the same services, but I’m a loyal person and I’ve always been with AHS. They’re improving on their work with times and it means a lot to me. They’re more customer-oriented, they wanna offer a good service and they have a good product. Companies compete with each other's business, but at the same time, there are a few people that wanna spend extra money to go the extra mile to make a customer feel pleased. American Home Shield really cares about their service.
I'd tell people to compare apples to apples, and not apples to oranges to make sure what all is covered. Just because another company comes at you doesn’t mean that they offer the same thing because there are similarities, but then, there are distinctive differences. You have to really be selective and do your homework to find out what. In my case, American Home Shield offered me a better package. Consider getting them.

We called Home Shield to file a claim for the dishwasher that kept on breaking. The appliance guy came out three times to change some parts on the dishwasher but it didn’t work. So he called the electrical company for them to come out to take the whole circuit breaker out because the actual breaker for it wasn’t a good one. The electrician walked in, looked at the dishwasher issue and he knew exactly what was wrong. He was done in about 15 minutes. And it was great.
For the most part, I've been happy with Home Shield. The only thing is I have an issue with my AC right now and I had an AC company come out and check it. And the person said it could be charged but American Home Shield won't cover it except for the $10 of the actual Freon that have to go in the AC. The heat came down because the fan was freezing up on the outside unit. I called American Home Shield and their reps responded really fast. It was a Friday and it was 24 hours before the contractor sent me a text and it was Monday when they gave me a time when they’d show up. And then, they showed up. It happened to be a company that does my maintenance anyway, except I didn’t know there were different people in there.
The guy who came was very knowledgeable and went straight to the source. It turned out that the unit was low on Freon. He told me how that caused the issue. There was not enough coolant going in and it stopped there at the fans. Last time, it was one of the thermostats from that same company down here. When he did the service, he showed me how to adjust the air ducts going into the rooms so I didn’t lose time and get more warmth in certain places and cold air in other places since it was summer. I watch out when they come out so I stayed outside with the guy working there and he explained what he did. Everything has been operating well since the repair.
AHS reacted really well. I don't call them very often and take care of a lot of stuff myself. But I’ll call them for the stuff that I can’t do. My neighbor across asked me about AHS because they were looking into it. I recommended AHS. I’ve gone to two others and AHS was the only one that could react fast enough. They would tell me upfront what it’s gonna cost me with no problem and they could take the money then or when the contractor shows up at the front door for the service. I don't know how much it would have cost for that guy to come out here and take care of all that. But I think what the contractor charges for an hour is more than what I would pay to AHS so having the warranty is very valuable.

I’ve had American Home Shield ever since I bought this house and it’s basically insurance if something happens. Usually, our claims are for air conditioning and I’ve also had a microwave shut off on me. AHS sent out a tech for our AC when it wasn't cooling and he gassed it up the first time that he came out. But he had to come back. I have a simple AC and when it got real humid, it was putting out so much water it couldn’t drain it and the drain pipe was stopped up. It wasn’t that humid when he did the repair originally and the unit was cooling but it was barely dripping. He didn’t check to make sure that when he did it the first time that that was slow and good. And when it started really dumping a lot of water, the water was running out in my upstairs in the floor.
I called American Home Shield and gave them my policy number and then they emailed me that somebody will be in contact with me. It was on a Saturday and the guy came the first thing Monday morning. I’ve submitted a number of claims to American Home Shield this last year. I get an instant text saying that I'm gonna hear from the contractor within 24 hours and that’s always nice. So, I like that. I had a claim when my water heater quit working and was leaking and I did hear from the plumber. They came out a few days later and fixed the problem. We talked a little bit about what I saw and then he told what the possibilities were and started tearing into it. He told me what he did, cleaned up, and talked to me before he left, which was nice. It was a real good customer service from the plumber.
Everything has been really good with AHS except when my heat pump furnace wasn’t working. They sent out a heat and cooling company and the guy replaced one part of the heat pump. It seemed to be working when he left but ut didn’t last very long. He had to come back out and replaced another part. It worked for a little while and then quit working again. When they came out the third time, he felt like the only thing he could do is replace the furnace.
Once it got to that point, that was a big ticket item and it went to some department of AHS. They probably looked if there was any way they could get out of shelling out that much money. Which I would understand, but my issue was it sat for months. It was right at the end of the cooling season, and I was able to use the electric heat part of the furnace. I’ve mentioned to the contractor that there’s no big hurry. I was really pushing on them at first to do repairs because it was still hot in August. But I said I just wanna get done before the next cooling season comes. And it went all through winter and was in the spring before it got resolved. There were a couple of times when I had to call and kinda push the thing along which I didn’t appreciate. But they eventually replaced it all and I’m very happy now.

It took a while for me to get the call and when the company got back in touch with me, I called the company that they said was going to call me. They said they were going to come out and it took them over the weekend before someone came.
One gentleman checked outside and inside and he made the repair that day. He said the AC overheated. He took the hose and brought it around then cooled off the air conditioning outside with water. But he did not give me a write up which they usually give to say what they did. It was easier for me to have it written down than trying to remember everything. I just let it go as getting back in touch with AHS takes so long to get an answer on the phone. So far, the AC has been working well.

We owned a home in Colorado and we used American Home Shield for that home. And then, when we bought this home in Iowa, we started using them again. Recently, our hot water heater wasn't getting hot and our water would stay hot for about 30 seconds or so and then it would be ice cold water. Also, we would come home from work all day and the water would be ice cold. I submitted a claim and called and I got a text within 30 minutes that they've already set up with whomever was supposed to come and do it. It took two to three days for someone to get there which wasn't bad.
However, the contractor didn't leave any notes and I had to call the next day to find out exactly what was the problem. They told me I had to wait 24 hours before the technician turned in his paperwork the next day. So, it took a day or so to find out. And the issue was something about the starter. But there was no paperwork on it, so I don't actually know everything they did or what they did. Other than that, I recommend AHS to everybody that I know.

The drain in the faucet was leaking bad so I submitted a claim over the phone. It was my first time ever using American Home Shield and they were excellent. They called me back, emailed me, texted me and kept me up on what was going on and when those issues would be there. They were on time as well. I submitted the claim on Tuesday and they came over on Thursday. The techs who came over were very clean and they did an excellent job. They diagnosed the problems and solved what was wrong. Also, they told me to give them a few minutes and they were able to get it through in probably 30 to 40 minutes. They told me that if I had any problems, give them a call back. When they had to come back the second time, I called them and they sent a guy the next day. After the repair, the drain has been wonderful.
Good morning Clifton

One of my AC units went out. I filled out the request online and submitted the claim to American Home Shield. That process was simple and straightforward. They got back to me and told me who to call. Then, I called their contractor and the technician told me when he was coming. The young man whom they sent was a really good guy. He was really professional and took him all of about 10 seconds to say what the problem was and that he would fix it. Since the repair, the house feels pretty comfortable though it's 110˚ outside. The contractor did a great job and the AC has been fine.
The biggest problem these days is that people don't know what they're doing and customer service sucks. I have to call back four or five times to get something done. But, with American Home Shield, everything has been simple. Rating them against industry standards for customer service would probably get them a high mark. American Home Shield should put it out there that they have a great service, great policies and that they do their job. They need to make people understand how they work especially those who do not how to use their service. That would cut down on the calls they get from people who get their problems fixed and complain that AHS is not paying for it. Overall, AHS hasn't made me unhappy. They've done exactly what they agreed to do.

Our space heater blew out the circuit breaker and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I’ve been with AHS for a month and it was the first time I called. I like talking to people and it was good speaking with them although this one didn’t speak English too well. The contractor did some of the circuit breakers outside on the garage and so far, it’s been working great. Also, the scheduled time was between 12:00 and 3:00 and he got there around 11:30. AHS provided excellent service and it was a good experience.

I called American Home Shield and told them my garage door didn't work. I usually have so many questions. I'd rather talk to somebody on the phone than go back and forth for 10 days in the email The rep was totally fine and he acted like he does that all the time. He looked up my contract and made sure I was covered and told me who he would be sending over. He told me to go online and put in a request and he told me how to do it. It was a Friday when I called and he said the contractor would get back to me on Monday and tell me when they could come. I had a couple more questions and he told me he had put the request through for me so I might hear from the contractor that same day. Within a few minutes, a guy called and asked when I wanted them to come. The guy who came out was fine and he certainly knew a lot more about garage doors than I do.
I would recommend AHS. They were very professional. I own a home in Connecticut and I just moved here about a year ago. Everybody said I need to get one of those home warranty insurance things because I'm moving into a house that someone else had lived in and you don't know what's gonna work and what's gonna break. The real estate agent tells me that she recommends American Home Shield to all of her clients and everybody seems to think that it's one of the best of all those home warranty places.

Recently my air flow was diminished, so I paid my deductible and American Home Shield sent someone out. The tech told me it was my air filter, so he changed it. I noticed later on that there was water in the area of my air conditioner, so I called back the next day. AHS tried to make me pay the deductible again, but I was like, “No. This is the same issue because there was no water when you came.” So, they waived the deductible the second time and sent the tech back out. He said, “It’s your drain pipe,” which is in the sink that’s in my basement. So, he said he cleared it out but when he left, it was still leaking.
I called American Home Shield again, which is the third time, and they said that they were gonna send the tech out again. But at that point, I said I wanted a different company to come out because he'd already been out twice. They said they couldn’t do that because if the tech caused the problem, it’s the same company that has to fix it but someone different would come out. But sure enough, the same exact guy came out the third time. This time he told me it was my coil and that AHS only pays for the coil but doesn't pay for order modifications that need to be done, which is $3,000 that I would have to pay. So, I talked to American Home Shield and told them, “It’s strange that the first few times it was very minor. Now you’re telling me I have to pay $3,000 because you don’t cover order modifications.”
I told the rep I wanted a second opinion, and she said I couldn’t do that but they could now send out somebody to give me a second opinion and then waive the deductible. They sent the next company out and the new tech said he cleaned the trap in the drain pipe. Because my carpet back there was wet, I had put a fan down there. When he left, I looked to see if it was still dripping, and I noticed that the water wasn’t at the AC. It was coming from the sink where the drain pipe goes into, but it was almost over reaching to the AC. So, I said, “That’s strange. If the AC unit was leaking, the water would be coming from here.” So, I went over to the sink and looked underneath, and it’s the pipe underneath the sink where the water drains into that was filled out and leaking. So, the previous tech would’ve had me pay over $3,000 when it wasn’t even the air conditioner the whole time.
I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out to fix the pipe. I had to pay the deductible, which I understood because now we’re talking about plumbing when it’s completely different than the air conditioner. Now the pipe is fixed and I have no more problems. Overall I really like American Home Shield's customer service, but the people that they used were horrible.

My recent claim to American Home Shield was for a leaking pump in my hot tub. I filed the claim online and it worked this time. AHS sent out a good contractor. He was on time and he was clean. He fixed the leak and since then it has been okay. I've had too many encounters with AHS and their fee is more than in other places. It was 50 bucks if I fixed it myself instead of 75 to American Home Shield. So, I was sad about that.

The motor on the fan of our AC went out. We called AHS one day and the rep that we spoke to was very polite. The contractors called us and said it would be the next day before they could get out there and it would be between 2:00 and 5:00. And so the contractor called when he was about 15 minutes from here, and he got here probably around 3:30. He was a nice guy to talk to and he gave me a few pointers. We've used AHS twice already and they’ve been very cordial. I’d recommend them.

I usually call AHS when I have to file a claim and let them know the problem and then they’d get somebody out there to me within 24 hours, depends on the severity of the claim. And then I just pay a $75 fee. They’re very professional, very nice and helpful. But when my spa wasn’t coming on and my chlorinator went out, apparently it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. I didn’t know because it said all pool equipment was covered. So I had to do away from my chlorinator and ended up just going to straight chlorine.
I’m not real impressed with the work of this one particular contractor, the Texas Pool Guy, because I don’t think they normally fix the problem. If they make a mistake, they’ll want me to put another claim in to fix a different problem so I’m not too happy with that. If you come out there and file the issue and I put a claim in the first time, I shouldn’t have to go back and pay another $75 just to fix this particular problem. And I did that two times. But I've been with American Home Shield for two years and I've had no issues with other vendors. I would highly recommend them. They’ve always been good to me.

American Home Shield sent a wonderful contractor after I submitted the claim. He walked in and asked me what I knew, and then told me what they were gonna do and walked me through everything. They had to come back one time, but the guy was there for a few minutes. And the AC has been great since the repair. American Home Shield is great and the price isn’t too bad. Having a home warranty is extremely valuable and I’m glad I have it. I don’t have to come fully out of pocket at one time when I have a problem.

I've used American Home Shield seven times since I bought the home warranty for our new home and it's been great. I go online to do a claim then American Home Shield would refer the contractor out to me. They would contact me and then come out as per their schedule and my schedule. That's how it has worked, and everyone has been very professional and courteous. I have had great experiences with the people American Home Shield has sent out except for the last one. It was absolutely horrific.
These guys put a spring for my garage on the back burner for two weeks and they did not keep me updated. Whenever I called in, all the guy did was complain that he had to work today and that he wanted to go home. It was ridiculous. I was going out of town for a week and they were supposed to come while I was gone. My wife was waiting for them to come and get it fixed. But I got home from being out of town and I called them to ask for my spring. When the repair guy finally came, it was on the Thursday of that week which was almost a full week later, and he didn't have my spring. He said that he would have to get it made in the morning. So they didn't even have to special order the thing. He went down to the store where they built springs and had it made. It took an hour and a half, and these guys left me hanging for two freaking weeks to do that.
I was expecting American Home Shield to call me to address this since American Home Shield asks me to rate my experience. But I can't communicate with somebody when something happens and goes wrong. I sent an email through the chat box on American Home Shield's website since that was the only place I could talk to somebody. The lady I talked to said she would document it but she said I would have to put it in writing in a letter. As good as American Home Shield is, they're living in the dark ages and that blew me away. The only way I can send in a complaint and let American Home Shield know that a company sucks is apparently through a physically written letter. It's absolutely ridiculous.

The guy from Sears said that there is a seal somewhere in the washing machine that was put on when it was built too tight. He said it was probably not the wrong one or when they put it on, they should have tried a different one 'cause it was too tight and over time, it bore a hole in it. So there was water leaking. We've been longtime American Home Shield people and we've always used them for every house that we've ever had. I filed a claim with them on a Friday evening and it went great. We got a call Saturday that we were on a schedule for that following Thursday. It was relatively quick considering that they're busy.
When the contractor came they were very thorough with their explanation about what had happened and what was going on. They showed my wife some general maintenance and cleaning techniques and things to help keep the washing machine running longer. And then they had to order that specific part and it was shipped straight to our house and they showed up the next day after it arrived and took care of it. So far the washing machine has been great.

I’m upset about my plumbing claim with American Home Shield. I explained that it’s covered under my contract and also what had happened. It took them a couple of days to get somebody out. My water was shut off, so they did an emergency thing. They sent a company and a guy came and checked everything out. Then he said, “Okay. I see what I gotta do.” He said that he gotta go back and call American Home Shield and tell them to get him the estimate. When he came back, he had AHS on the line and they said I would have to pay for that myself. It wasn’t covered because I tried to repair it. I didn’t try to repair a thing, except for stuffing a rag in a hole to stop the water from coming out. I was just trying to stop it from leaking. Even as I turned the water off, it was still leaking water on my wooden deck.
I don’t know what he told AHS or what his perception was when he saw what he saw because the pipe was twisted. It was twisted when I turned the rest of the faucet to stop the leak. That pipe was in there since the house was built in 1977. And his thing was, “Well, pipes don’t break.” And I said, “Man, anything can break.” I said, “Don’t tell me something can’t break. Anything can break down. Wear and tear will break anything down.”
When I tried to turn the faucet off, the faucet itself broke off. And when I tried to take the pliers to tighten it down to stop the water, the whole thing broke off. I explained that to everybody. However, I ended up having to spend $246 out of my pocket because AHS would not cover that. I was upset because I didn’t do anything nor did I try to fix anything. They’re still bugging me.
I was trying to call somebody yesterday to complain about that but they said that they had a backlog of calls so I have to wait. But the guy was okay. I just had problems with whatever happened between him and American Home Shield. It left me in the middle and caused me to pay. I was not pleased with the outcome. But that’s really the only thing that I’ve really had a problem with AHS because anytime I’ve had any kind of issues at my home, they’ve always sent somebody out. The people who come out are always nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. They repaired my problem. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend.
But with my air conditioning claim, the tech had to replace the cooling coil and AHS was gonna pay for that. But the company said it was gonna cost me $600 for the Freon because they were gonna take 11 pounds of Freon. I'm not gonna pay that. I work here on the air base and I know plenty of HVAC guys here who can come out and fill that thing up for less than $600. But according to them, AHS won’t allow it. I said that they could put the part in, but I won’t need them to fill it up with Freon. That situation has not even been solved yet. The part hasn’t been ordered and when the lady called me back one more time asking what I was gonna do, I said that I’ve already told them what I’m gonna do. I’m not gonna give them $600 to fill in their Freon. I’m stuck because if they got the part, they’re gonna have to put the part in and they have to do the Freon.
We have been getting great service in the beginning until these just two recent incidents upset me because we’re paying for this stuff. And before I called in any work order, I read what’s covered and what’s not covered, and everything I called in was supposed to be covered. But they didn’t cover and they didn’t follow through on these. They strayed away from what we pay for. And on top of this, they gave me a list of people that I couldn’t use for my plumbing work, but the guy who came out who did the plumbing was connected with one of the companies that they had told me I couldn’t use.

At the moment, we have to turn it on and off with the screwdriver every time we use it. We submitted an online claim with AHS. It was easy navigating the site. Within the day, the contractor called and due to our schedule, it was a few days before he could come out. Another issue was that in the casita, the water in the shower is coming out warm and not hot. He was arguing that it was all a problem with the water heater and that the water heater needed to be drained and new water put in.
Everything is still as it was. I received a call from AHS on Monday that the casita was not covered under the plan. And as far as our master shower, evidently the contractor needed access into the wall and it was gonna cost $600 to $800 to get access into the wall for the small piece that was covered by AHS. The work has not been finished and I’ve gotta call AHS to get clarifications. We’ve had several claims with them and a few of them, we were able to take care of. I have been a customer with American Home Shield for approximately a year. I called and reported that my A/C was not working at the end of April and they sent out Beaches Heating and Air. When they came out the first time the tech said it was a fan that was broken and left to get a replacement. He came back and put that in but that did not fix the problem. The next time they came back they said it was the heat pump and compressor. So I had to wait for the part to be ordered and had to pay for Freon. I paid the amount the tech told me that the Freon cost when he came back to install the compressor. Not one week later the A/C stopped working again and I called to have the issues resolved. AHS sent Beaches Heating and Air out again, technician Rocky. He then proceeds to tell me that the coil had a leak and he sprayed something comparable to "fix a flat" to stop the leaks and put more Freon in, no charge this time.
Well that did not fix it because again within a week I had to call them again. Meanwhile I have been calling AHS, complaining that this company was not fixing the problem with the A/C, the answer I received is that if they don't fix it this time will send another company out to fix it. The last time Beaches came out again it was Rocky, he tells me that their company cannot fix the A/C coil leak problem, they were not qualified to work on the type of AC I have. After several trips out to my house and the same technician every time he tells me this! So I call AHS to inform them the next day, then they try to make me pay another 100 in deductible because the way Beaches explained the problem to them. I refused and talked to another representative that said I did not have to pay another deductible and she also agreed that I would not have to pay for more Freon since what Beaches did not fix the problem.
AHS sent out Total Air Care out on June 29, this technician told me that the Beaches technician took everything apart in the AC unit and left it loose, and that there is another part that needed to be replaced that Beaches never even took the time to diagnose. Total Air Care was to get back in touch with AHS and they would let me know when I could expect my AC to be fixed or repaired. Well surprise. I haven't heard from AHS and every time I call them I get the runaround. I want my AC fixed without any cost to me because it is not my fault that AHS sent out an incompetent company the first time. And every time I call AHS I am told that I am not allowed to speak to a supervisor.

Then, the first tech came out three times and tried a couple of things, but he couldn't figure out the issue. He was not very knowledgeable of that particular appliance and rather than saying it was not repairable, he told AHS that he couldn't do it but it was repairable, which was confusing. AHS had to send somebody else and that other person said that the dishwasher was not repairable. After it was decided that the dishwasher would be replaced, it was easy. But it ended up costing them more because they changed several parts in the dishwasher that they ended up throwing in the trash. Besides that, I had another claim with AHS that went very smoothly. The tech came out, said there was no part, then took care of the problem right away.
I am an agent and I have recommended AHS to at least 25 of my clients. But I don't know if I will do that again. The overall experience was good but there were some things that didn't make a lot of common sense. They need to make sure that the language they use makes sense because you can't say that something's not repairable but the customer's gonna get somebody to work on it several more times.

Recently, I thought I had a slab leak. I called American Home Shield, told them what the issue was and they sent some plumbers out to look at it. I got a text message saying the name and contact information of the contractor that would be out here. Their technicians showed up and found the suspected problem. They did some calling to see if it was covered or not because there was a hose that was failing and whether it will be covered or not was questionable. Eventually, they found out it was covered and they put a new hose in. That fixed the problem and everything has been working fine since. I'd recommend AHS.

I submit my claims over the phone with American Home Shield and all of their representatives have been helpful. I wanna talk to representatives for the most part to make sure that my claims go through rather than me doing it by myself. And I normally go through Stacie and when I did my claim on my AC, she was able to help me get things pushed forward so I would be able to get my AC assisted with. But I would not recommend their contractor, 24/7 America Air Conditioning.
24/7 told me that they were gonna be at my house at a certain time, but they were not. They said there was something wrong with their tire, and they did not show up on time. And then they wanna charge me for Freon. They said they did the manufacturing transition and the receipt says Freon. They weren’t even supposed to charge me for the Freon and they didn’t even do a manufacturing transition. They were just trying to take advantage of me not thinking that I knew what I was being charged for. They ended up having to reimburse me for my $110, but they were horrible. Also, they had me going back and forth. They told me I needed to call AHS because they would order the parts. I called AHS and they said I needed to call 24/7 because they were the ones who had the part.
I had to call 24/7 back, and I could not get a straight answer with them. They were the worst. When they first came over, they told me nothing was wrong. They just put Freon on there and charged me. And then I kept my AC on for two days and the Freon leaked out. The first person was not able to tell me that there was a leak that was why I didn’t have Freon. So they wasted my time and money. And it was the beginning of summer, and it was hot in the house. They could do nothing for me. So it was a horrible experience with them. But other than that, AHS has always been great to me and able to help me out with whatever I requested for.

We noticed a significant build-up of water in our carpet next to the A/C unit which flooded our carpet and our wall. We figured it was coming from the A/C unit but we didn't know why. We thought it was broken and it was struggling to keep the air temperature down when it was 100 degrees out. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online at first but then something happened with the timeline and so I tried to do an outside authorization. I ended up calling thereafter and filing a whole new claim.
Also, we were a bit frustrated as it felt like the technician wasn't very thorough when they were looking at our claim initially. But then I didn't think it was AHS' fault. It seemed like a specific contractor issue. When they came out again and we pressed them a bit, their technicians looked at our problem closely and figured out the problem.
AHS has also been really helpful with paying for things. We had an issue where the technicians were gonna make modifications to our A/C unit and they were gonna charge us because that wasn't covered in the warranty. I told technicians that I didn't want the modification at all because it wasn't a repair and I didn't want to pay for it. AHS on our behalf was able to make a call to the technicians and told them that we didn't want to do that for the A/C. That was very helpful and I've enjoyed my experience working with AHS.

The shower in our master bedroom has two hot and cold faucets to activate the water going through the showerhead. And in one of those faucets, there was a leak. My wife called American Home Shield and it took about a week for a contractor to come out. The guy looked at the issue, what it was, got his stuff out of his truck, and fixed it. He also fixed the stoppage in one of the sinks in the same bathroom and in the kitchen. He handled all that. He had to come back one time because one thing didn’t hold but the service was good.
The only thing was that it took a while. I’m sure AHS' contractors serve all their private customers first before they get around to the warranty customers. The downside of a warranty is that they're always getting the lowest quality contractors. The contractors are not making much money from AHS, so the service is always adequate. But the contractors always first introduce themselves. They know why they came, and we know why they're here. And having a home warranty is worth it if you do not have the time or the ability to do home repairs by yourself.

I noticed my AC unit outside had a loud noise and it stopped working sounding like it was gonna blow up. I went online to file a claim and after I set the claim, it asked me if I was to pay now or later and I pressed “later” when I should have pressed now so I called the rep. I told the rep I got confused with what I did and she explained the process to me. She told me that she could change it for me. The contractors called before they came and they arrived on the estimated time. They had great customer service. When they came, they went upstairs to the attic first and said that the issue was definitely outside. The guys went outside and did an analysis. They came back and explained everything that was going on. They told me that something was needed to be cleaned and some doohickeys were needed to be changed. They told me to give them an hour and they’ll have the AC back on.
Other people always have problems with their home warranties, but when I put two claims in back-to-back, I never had an issue with anything with AHS. So, when I submitted my claim online the second time for my washing machine, I knew what I was doing because it was explained to me better than just reading it. With AHS, they send people out to do an analysis of what is seen or heard. Their people always fix it and they never tried to sell me a $7,500 unit unlike what happened to my friend who ended up buying a whole new unit because she didn’t have AHS and she didn’t understand what was said.

Then I told her to set that appointment, but I also asked if I could talk to a supervisor to see if they could get somebody sooner. When she got the supervisor on, he extended it for another day because he said the space that I wanted was already taken.
When AHS sent the number of the company that was coming, I told that company the issue and they kept the Sunday appointment rather than the Monday that was given to me. They also told me that they had all sorts of opening. The contractor who came out was good. He determined that the unit needed Freon, but we ended up paying the most of it. I’ve got four kids and we had laundries stacking up so from that point, I went out, purchased a new washer and went through the claims that way as we purchased. And then, American Home Shield did a reimbursement.
However, we didn’t hear a word from the time that the claim was submitted to receiving a check. So, I called in and lo and behold, the day later, a check came in the mail. They did not cover the entire cost of the replacement but it’s better than nothing and it was appreciated. They did everything that they were supposed to do. I moved in my new property and the lighting was not working. American Home Shield sent out an electrician from one company. He came, removed the lights and then said he couldn’t fix it because it wasn’t covered. So I replaced the light on my own. But it did not resolve the problem apparently because it happened again a month later. There are two main lights in this room and the other light stopped working as well. But when I called American Home Shield, they said it's been more than 30 days of that initial claim so it wasn’t covered anymore. It would be another $75. They sent somebody else out and he fixed the light and hung it properly. But I was disappointed that I had to pay the service fee again. I feel like every time I would call them, I would have to pay $75 for some reason. I wouldn't discourage somebody from the warranty but I would want them to be aware of what specific coverage they have if it is their first time using a home warranty.
American Home Shield is a reputable company and in general, they are doing fine. I've used it three times and they always answer the phone and check my information. They're helpful but they can't tell me for sure if something is covered without knowing the details of the problem. But whoever the service provider has been has gotten in touch with me within a day or two. So it seems quick. I also called American Home Shield for the air conditioner once and although they sent out someone three times for that, I only had to pay once. $75 versus a thousand dollars, which was what I would have spent, was very good. So American Home Shield has helped and in that sense, I'm glad that I have the Home Shield coverage.

AHS' contractor said they would be out in two days but then they called the tenant back and said it would be more like a week. It took him over two weeks to get his dishwasher fixed.
Still, Bakersfield was an isolated problem. AHS and their contractors totally get the job done. To me, the reason I have the warranty is so that I'm not waiting. Sometimes, when I call a company, they say that they're booked for weeks. I would have guessed that the benefit of AHS is that they have the ability to contact different contractors. Since I renewed American Home Shield, their claiming process has been much easier and quicker. We just call and say we got a problem. And 99% of their reps have great customer service, listening to the problem and understanding that we’re having issues. So far, it has been good. The first issue we claimed for was for the pool that turned out to be a cracked valve. The guy from Splash Pool tried to fix it but it didn’t work and he told me that the crack was too big and they’ll just replace the part. Within a week after that, the pump started to go. He had to order the part and I understood that it had to get approval from AHS. I liked the personality of the guy. He was quick and great. He stayed in contact with me and allowed me to text him and find out what was going on.
We’ve also gone through air conditioner issues. It was hot as hell in Oklahoma and the guy was supposed to fix the air conditioner. It took them a week and a half but still didn’t fix it. We had a second opinion and had a guy out. He finally found out was going on and the guy pulled it through. I’ve had friends who switched to AHS and have been extremely unhappy. People complain about the long draggy call and AHS takes long to get back to them or wait around to have somebody show up. But for me, it was convenient as I was a stay-at-home mom in the beginning. And right now, my job is flexible so I can schedule around.

When AHS gives you a number of somebody to get a hold of who's gonna come out and do the job, they have really good people. They're very reliable and they do a great job. My only issue is when you call AHS and if you want to speak to somebody, it takes a long time to get through them. If you call up and you use their electronic system cause you know what you're calling about is covered, that's simple. But if you have to speak to a human being, you are in trouble.
I called today, and in my sink when I turn the water, I could it turn on for about 20 seconds. And then, for some reason, the pipe that the water's going down to fills up. So, I have to turn off the water and then wait a few minutes and the water goes back down like I’m told, and then I can use the sink again. That's a pain in the neck and there's gotta be some reason the water's not flowing like it should be down through that pipe.
I was not sure that was covered in American Home Shield. When I tried to use their system, it gave me these options. But, that was not an option, so, I had to ask a person. The person's name was Angel. And Angel's first language is not English. I had to repeat myself over and over to get through to her. At one point I said, "Angel, I'm sure that English is not your first language. So, if you could send me to a supervisor, and that person could put me through somebody whose English is their first language, just to save me a whole lotta time." Instead of sending me to that, she put me on hold. And she had put me on hold so many times. It took 36 minutes, that if I had somebody whose English was their first language, it would have taken three minutes. So, that was frustrating.
I've had AHS since 1999, so I'm very familiar with them, and I've had great luck with them. I really didn't have any complaints except they have to do a better job of making it seem to get to a person who is knowledgeable quickly if it's something you have to ask a question about. But I'd still recommend AHS. I have a lot of people that use them and have them because I told them about it.

There is usually a little bit of a wait time when I call American Home Shield and some of their contractors aren’t very good. We’ve had some issues with a few of them. When we hired somebody to do our own AC, we found that the guy was trying to upcharge for items. Also, my son and I have medical issues, so if our AC or something that affects the thermostat in the house has a problem, it can cause more issues. I have to have somebody come out quickly to resolve them. But it takes them quite a while to get here and then they give you a quote and end up taking forever to get some of the stuff done.
At one point, we were displaced from our house for almost two weeks. We were waiting on a part that was literally was in the same city that I lived in and I could have gone and picked up myself because they ordered it from a different place. We have asked AHS to block people from coming back to our house again, but they still get sent out anyway. The last contractor that was out here was very nice and quick to come out. But we’ve had more bad contractors than good ones.
Other than that, I would still recommend American Home Shield. It saves a lot of money for homeowners that have major repairs, especially when things are a little bit tighter and it’s harder to come up with a bunch of money to fix a whole unit. But instead of replacing things, they replace little pieces of things until it finally gives out completely. It’s a constant Band-Aid repair.

I first made the claim on June the 7th and by June the 12th they notified me. They were supposed to call me within 24 hours to make an appointment but that never happened. I made a phone call myself and I left a message because there was nobody there. They did call me back and a service guy came out, looked at my dish machine and said he gotta order a part. However, up to this point the service company had never notified me. I called and they said they were waiting on a part. I said, “I’ll go get the part and I’ll have it here tomorrow.” And they said, “Oh, no. We gotta get it from AHS.”
I understand that they all have to do that to determine the cost, so I know that they would rather have their own part. However, when I finally called AHS on the 26th of June, they said that the contractor, Service Plus, received the part on the 21st but I still haven’t heard from them. This machine has never been fixed and they’ve already charged me the $75 call pay which I expect to get back. Now, I don’t know how long I’m supposed to wait for a repair. If Service Plus doesn’t wanna do the repair, AHS should get me somebody else, but they said they can’t do that. Service Plus is the biggest problem. With service people like that, they wouldn’t last long under me. It doesn’t do AHS good to have a service company like that and I don’t need their poor service. They are letting me wait this long for my dish machine.
Now, I’m almost at the point of calling a friend who used to work for me and have him drive 100 miles to my house to fix my dish machine, and he’ll do it for nothing other than I’ll go get the part. I am really frustrated and I'm very dissatisfied. Nobody can tell me when it’s gonna be fixed and I have no idea if it’s really gonna be fixed. I’m 81 years old and I can’t really stand up at the dish machine and wash my dishes. I’m so close to tell AHS to take their contract and put it where the sun doesn’t shine.

Also, when I plug something into the outlet and use it, it would fry them. We plugged the vacuum into the light switch and that made a blow. I used the ahs.com website to submit the claim and I got automatic notifications of the company that I could expect to hear from to schedule the appointment to come and look at it. My wife was gonna be home when they could come, so they suggested a service window. The contractor came and he was very professional and courteous. The issue was supposed to have been fixed through a warranty, but the issue kept happening.
When the issue was finally resolved, my wife wanted to test it. She said that the technician felt like he might have been insulted by questioning whether he did the job appropriately. We have had the background of having to have the issue fixed multiple times, so he might have gotten the idea that we didn't trust him to do the work. But it was a kinda funny like light-hearted thing. And everything’s fine. Now, we have a different kind of switch on the wall and it's finally fixed. The fan controls on the fan itself. The light seems to take a little extra time to come on, but that maybe because of some interaction with fluorescence. It was in 2005 when I bought the place where AHS came with it and I simply kept it going. We've had several occasions to use the service and having the convenience of a single company to call when things happen has provided enough value for me to keep the contract going. I talked to a representative who got my order and put it in the system. They had a contractor sent to my house in a couple of days. The guy was amazing. He checked the AC the first time he came and it was okay. When he came the second time, he was able to pinpoint the issue and helped me. So far, everything is working good.

I am writing to you all as a long time customer who has been getting the run around from AHS for almost 2 weeks. I have 2 kids under 5 years of age and it my central air is not working. My home is over 90 degrees and the call I initiated on July 2nd was escalated the same day. Today is July 11th and a company was supposed to come today to my house between 12-2 pm, I confirmed with the company Blue Ribbon and they stated they will be there between 12-2. At 2 PM I called to find out when the tech will be coming, I was told that AHS needs to call them for prepayment before they can come.
The rep (Ralph) I spoke with stated he will give me a call back with an update and never did. I called AHS again at 3:30 and after being on hold for 45 mins, I spoke with a rep and after explaining the issue for the 10th time, I was told, “Hold please” and then promptly hung up on. I called back and spoke with (Teshira) who huffed and puffed and said someone will call me in the next 4 hours and have a company come out on Friday the 13th. That is 2 weeks from when the call was escalated and yet AHS claims that customers are very important to them and they strive on customer focus. As it is evident from this request that is not the case especially when I have 2 kids under the age of 5 and the daily temperature is over 90 degrees.

I called back to dispute the claim from the first repair company. They sent out a second company who replaced my hinges. It was not a bad frame after all. My oven works just fine now. A specialist that monitors this site kept checking up on me to make sure things went smoothly. It took longer than I expected because the warranty company kept messing up my phone number or not giving it to the repair companies. But at the end of the day my oven was repaired. It was a rocky few weeks.
Original Review: July 11, 2018
I recently bought a new home. Upon my walkthrough of the house I noticed everything seemed to be working fine. A month later closing was completed. I walk into my new home and realize the oven light is on because the door will not close all the way. I call the home warranty phone number and they send a technician out a few days later. He determines the frame is bent and assumes someone put something heavy on it or sat on it. As per their contract they don't cover preexisting damage.
So I'm out $75 dollars my first week in the house and they won't repair or replace my oven. I've had other home warranty companies in the past and they have been very helpful and I always felt they wanted to make my life easier. But this company calls you, verifies who you are and before you have a chance to ask questions you are hit with contract references about how they are not liable. I understand how contracts work but compared to my experience with other home warranty companies this shouldn't be someone's first choice. I'll be going with another company when this warrant that came with the house expires. Be warned and double check everything before you buy the home or you will have to bite the bullet.
Good morning Melvan,
I understand your concerns with the coverage American Home Shield provides and the service fee that was paid to diagnose the oven. I would be glad to speak with you and address any remaining concerns that you have.

AHS call agents did not understand my steam boiler problem 3x. It was a leak in the pipes but they sent mechanical (air conditioning) companies to fix my leaking heating unit. Although I explained the problem of leaking water in a very detailed way, pleading with them to send someone right away, the call agent only would contact mechanical companies that could come out 48 hours later. When the mechanical company came out, they said, they can't fix this because it is a plumbing problem, and they stated that on the work order, it only said "steam boiler does not work", and hence AHS sending the AC companies.
The very last time I called AHS about this problem, I insisted vehemently to send a plumber for my steam heater problem. They were confused, but the last person relented and set up an appointment with a plumber. I do not understand why I had to call 3x and why AHS will not easily take into account customer's input about what kind of contractor is needed. It has wasted 2 days' time, many calls, being stuck at home waiting for contractors, lots of headaches. AHS failed to "protect my home".
Updated on 09/11/2018: AHS has not proven itself to be a dependable nor professional service company. This has been 2 months since my baseboard heater/boiler leaking issue and it has not been fully resolved. When I had called American Home Shield in July, they had scheduled 3x an air conditioner company to fix my baseboard heater/boiler leak issue, but it was a *plumbing* issue. The people who received my call would not schedule a plumber, so they sent an air conditioning company who did come but told me, they are not the right kind of company to work on my boiler! This was a waste of their precious time, when so many people were without air conditioning at that time. (And AHS did charge me the $75 for this 1-minute visit!) So I called American Home Shield again, and they scheduled me with ANOTHER AIR CONDITIONER COMPANY, even at my insistence that it was a plumbing issue.
Finally when they were convinced that they should dispatch a plumber, they were unable to dispatch one until 4 days later. It was a Thursday and they said the next available company could come Monday afternoon at earliest. I told them my boiler is leaking and causing damage already, but AHS dispatcher said, "Sorry Ma'am, that is the earliest we can schedule your call." Upon my insistence to know, they only have 2 plumbing companies to serve AHS customers in my metropolitan area, one of which is based in a different state! AHS advertises "You need a guy, we have 14,000". I find, this is not true. I need a guy, and they have 2, and one can't come until 4 days later...
So with much frustration and adamant insistence, I was able to be get to an "OA", or outside authorization referral, which meant I could call my own plumber because American Home Shield was unable to dispatch one in a reliable time, given my leaking boiler that was damaging my basement wall and floor! The plumber I called came in 30 minutes, fixed the trouble wonderfully. I spent $500 and submitted the outside authorization that same day on 7/13, and it is 9/11 and I am still waiting for the reimbursement. A nice lady calls me every once in a while from the media affairs dept because of my post, to check up on me, and tells me, 'be patient, that department is slow'. Needless to say, I don't have much confidence I will be reimbursed since it has been TWO MONTHS. AHS itself as a middle-man company has not proven itself to be dependable nor professional.
Good morning Benita,
I understand your concerns with the air conditioner companies that were dispatched to you as well as the delay in service you have experienced. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issues resolved.

I have paid the Home Warranty of my new home for 1 year and 4 months. I requested a service for the first time because the AC of the second floor was not working properly. They sent a technician who said the AC unit needed to be replaced (apparently it was too small?) and he told me American Home Shield would call me in one or two days. Never happened. After two weeks I called them, finding they have a terrible customer service and again, after 1 hour in the phone, they told me the case was in the authorization department and somebody would call me in the next 2 days. Nobody did.
Almost 1 month after the initial visit I called again and now they tell me from the very beginning somebody should have told me they would not cover it because the AC is not broken, is just that is too small for the house. I get it. They only fix something which is broken to start with. But I would have appreciated if they told me that on day 1. My advice: if you have enough money to pay for the home repairs in an as needed base, you do not need to go through the headache of dealing with people who make profit from denying claims (by the way, a very successful business in the USA).

After requesting HVAC service from AHS, it took over a month for the contractor to get ahold of me, which know is not AHS's fault. After the contractor came out, they fixed one small thing and left. This did nothing but cost us $75. I had to resubmit the claim, which it then dispatched another contractor out to us. This took another month to get finalized after 4 different trips to my house. Again, not 100% AHS's fault, but even after all of this, it is hard to tell what exactly gets covered and still had to pay +$600. It is very hard to reach AHS on any of this, as well.

UPDATE - After multiple complaints through telephone, Facebook, Consumer Affairs and the Attorney General AHS did send me a check for the "Cash out" value of the replacement for the hot water heater in the amount of $605.00. This of course does not come close to the actual cost of the repair which no provider would do for less than $1900.00, but at least the funds helped us recover some of our out of pocket expenses.
Original Review: July 11, 2018
We purchased a home 2 months ago and I paid over $600 for a top of the line home warranty with American Home Shield. A little over a week ago our water heater failed, leaked and caused our downstairs ceiling to collapse. We contacted AHS for an immediate repair and over a week later the matter remains unresolved because of the following: AHS uses substandard vendors in the area. The first vendor called out for the job never showed up. The second vendor arrived with an attitude saying they "don't make any money off AHS repairs".
The vendor quoted us a cost of $900 out of pocket for the "covered" repair! This was in addition to the $80 due to AHS for the deductible. The vendor stated the water heater needed to be brought up to code and this was the extra expense. I found out with a simple web search that anyone, in any state, with any water heater using AHS for a repair is told by the vendor it needs to be brought up to code and property owners pay between $650-$900 out of pocket, even though an expansion tank and misc items needed for "code" cost under $100.00.
AHS doesn't care how much of an emergency a covered repair is. We are waiting and waiting to get them to have someone give us a second opinion. They have what they call a "cash out" option which means they give you about $350 and you pay the full price for the water heater install yourself, which means even more out of pocket to you. AHS doesn't covered related water damage, so the hole in my ceiling will be an entirely separate out of pocket expense. I have to leave the hole in the ceiling until the water heater is replaced and running to make sure there are no additional leaks.
This type of insurance fraud should not be allowed. The $600 I paid for the warranty should be refunded to me in full or AHS should be required to cover the entire cost of the water heater with me paying for only the deductible as the plan is marketed. NO ONE would spend $600 + for a warranty if they knew that they would be required to come out of pocket $900-$1000 to use the warranty.
Good evening Michelle,
I understand your frustration with your most recent experience to have the water heater replaced. I understand that the issue is still ongoing and needs immediate attention. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the issue resolved.

July 1, 2018, My home sprung a water leak, I requested service via online. Paid the fee on July 2, 2018, Plumber was called out but unable to come out until the 5th of July (1st plumber too busy). Called back for another plumber, #2 which they came on the 3rd of July, picked off the temporary patch I had put on the leak to prevent more damage. Then they applied "plumber's putty." Stuff you put under the drain to seal it but not good for pressurized water volume, so now it has damaged sheetrock wall. Had a quote of 1754.00 under foundation repair.
AHS denied the repair based on a clause in contract. July 5th called AHS For a refund for service fee, was told I have to wait for "Cash in lieu of service department" (on 5th they were processing service calls from the 1st of July 2018) to call me 7-10 business days of submission from service contractor. Which was submitted July 5th to get my money back. So that would leave me until the 12th of July to talk to them then another 5-7 days to receive payout. (Keep in mind pipe still leaking). I called yet another plumber (#3) and he fixed it in 3 hrs, and $80.00 in materials and $75.00 service call fee. On July 9th 2018.
Never had this much trouble with any warranty company. I hope to receive enough money to repair the wall that was damaged for waiting so long. PS. I shut off water when it was not needed, but I also have 2 teenagers, who need showers, food, and clean clothes so water was on and off for a maximum 3 hrs each night for personal hygiene and cooking... "Bottom line" DON'T BUY AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. Do more homework when it comes to home warranty companies when buying a home. Thanks for reading.
Updated on 08/04/2018: Yes. After contacting AHS three times I was able to get problem resolved, I am still not satisfied with quality of customer relations and speed of service from "American Home Shield". If I had to wait 25 days for the repairs to be done it would have been catastrophic to my home's foundation and interior walls from water damage. If AHS had to wait 25 days for payment AHS would suspend or cancel the warranty agreement. Once again our service request was placed on 7/03/2018 - AHS called it a "forced payout" for repairs. Did not receive compensation until 07/28/ 2018.
Even with my opinion I am glad to have a warranty to cover some of the cost to offset what I paid out of pocket for this issue. I just revised my homeowners ins coverage to $200.00 deductible. I am willing to pay that than go thru AHS again for any issue. And I was able to get appliances, plumbing, and Ac systems covered thru ins company. So ask questions on coverages, what they are willing to insure. I know from experience I can count on my INS company to move faster on any issue.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I am very disappointed in American Home Shield. On Friday June 22nd we reached out to them so they could send someone out to fix our AC unit. At first they acted like they couldn’t help us until we called back during normal business hours. Finally after calling them several times between Friday night and Saturday we decided to use an outside source to fix our AC units. (Note we looked into our providers that would be covered under the contract and none of them was close to us... like two hours away and they also didn’t offer AC service after hours). We called back in and got authorization to use an outside source. They told us to call once the technician was onsite and get approval. When the technician arrived he called and waited for 20 min on hold just to find out that he would need to wait 45 min on hold before he would get assistance.
No company is going to wait that long on hold. I mean it’s the middle of summer, this is busy season for these guys. So he went on to fix the AC and we paid him. We called back in after he left and they told us that they needed someone from repair shop to call in so they would be able to reimburse. They have since called in and American Home Shield still says they won't pay after they told us they would once the repair shop called in. They continue to tell us that they can’t reimburse since the provider didn’t call in prior. But they have a voicemail that states that if we have called in after hours to fix whatever the customer needs and call back at a later date!
Now skip forward two weeks. We have received a letter from American Home Shield letting us know they will not reimburse. After the repair shop has called and we have called well over a dozen times. Every time we call we get a different story. Sometimes we call and get pleasant representatives but most of the time it’s lame excuses. They even charged a service fee for sending out a provider that they never sent! So now we are out over $500 not to mention the monthly payments that we make to this “waste of your time” company! I would not recommend American Home Shield to my worst enemy. They give a bad name to all home warranty companies.

American Home Shield has been very easy to work with but unfortunately, they have no control over the people that come out to service things. However, George, the owner of George Morris & Son, was wonderful. Our AC unit was not working and I filed the claim with American Home Shield over the phone. George came out, narrowed it down to the thermostat problem and he replaced it. The unit’s been working fine ever since. American Home Shield was excellent and I’m very happy with them. However, it took them about a week to come out because they were really busy but that was fine. They were really helpful, very courteous, very polite and listened to what I thought was going wrong. And then, they did a research and once they checked the refrigerator, they figured out exactly what was wrong. After that, they had to order the part and had to get the approval through the people from AHS for the warranty. They were professional and kept me up-to-date. They tried to do the best they could because they had so many other people since there were only two options. They were excellent and I’d definitely like to have them again to help me if I needed it.

We had some issues with our air conditioning not blowing cold air. We contacted American Home Shield and had an awesome experience with the servicing agent. They responded within the same day and had it fixed. Normally it takes two to three days to get an agent out to my location. But because we have a lot of smaller servicing agents that work out of this area, it’s not too bad.
AHS is very easy to use. But the experience with the contractors depends on which ones. We’ve had some difficulties with electrical as far as appliances. We had a vendor come out from Dublin that was not a good experience. The last one with my microwave was also not great. It took about a week for the vendor to come back and fix it. And then we ended up having to pay extra money because he had ordered parts and then had to replace a whole microwave. But as far as the other appliances, for my washer and dryer, we always get Sears to come out. Also with the AC, AHS always has a very reliable vendor come out. We’ve been with AHS since 2006 and never had a major issue.

Recently, AHS sent people from A&G Rooter who were prompt and professional. They diagnosed the problem and determined that it wasn't actually a problem at all. So, before they cut holes in my ceiling, they were able to identify what happened and there wasn't a need for any cutting work done and they were upfront about it.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield that still hasn't been resolved and I can't seem to get a callback or a response from them about a leak in my ceiling downstairs. I called on multiple occasions and all they tell me is that they’re gonna put in a request. I never get a call and this has been going on for a couple of months. The contractor that they used, Hers and His Plumbing, never turned in their report, which delayed me getting a second opinion. I had two opinions and they were both different. I requested to use someone else because the same company came out twice and gave me two different opinions. Then, I called my home inspector, which was separate, that I paid out-of-pocket to look and he told me a different opinion. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I'd like for them to send someone else out and they told me that I can't use someone that I’ve already used for that opinion.
They’ll have to send someone but Her's and His Plumbing has to turn in their diagnostic report first. That has been the past 30 days and they were supposed to turn that report in within 30 days. AHS had to call Her's and His Plumbing several times to try to get the report. I haven’t been pleased with this plumbing company at all and requested for them not to come back out because the first time their guy came out, he told me that he couldn’t identify the leak and that I just had to keep watching it. There was nothing done. About three weeks later, the same leak happened along two different areas in the ceiling. I've been sitting with two holes in my ceiling for over two months and still sitting that way. I just got back from vacation and I was hoping someone from AHS would call soon.
I had two claims that happened at the same time and the other one was for my stove. AHS said that I had cancelled the appointment for that one but that was not true. I need to cook in my oven and would never have cancelled the appointment. Someone was supposed to call me back because they were supposed to listen to the recorded call to see if someone from American Home Shield's side cancelled it. But no one ever called me back for that one. Ultimately, that claim ended up getting fixed. A service technician came out and did his job with the stove.
Also, when you call AHS and press a certain number to say that you're checking on a claim, it just automatically hangs up on you. It has been very frustrating. I had to call back several times and sometimes, I trick the system and go to accounting or billing and tell them that I needed to check on my repair. We bought four houses and we're not even 40. So, we always get home warranties for whoever is buying our house and we always get one when we are buying our own and we definitely won't use American Home Shield again.

While we finally got the bottom one working, this will be the fourth time out for the AC guy. We finally figured it out that there was a leak someplace in the line from where it comes from the condensers to the upstairs unit, whether it’s underground or in the house. And we’re going on three months without air conditioning upstairs in the heat of summer.
There has been a miscommunication with American Home Shield regarding this issue. They gave me a new contact that I didn’t know about so we basically had to start over and explain to the rep what’s going on. And I hate that in the middle of something. They said this has never happened with anyone and that they are working on the issue. So I asked them, “Why are you letting it happen with me?”
In the meantime, I can’t even go upstairs where the shower and the bedroom are so I have to sleep on the couch downstairs. And on top of this, I’m trying to sell the house. When people go upstairs to look at it they can't stand the heat up there and they have to go back downstairs. It gets up to 110 upstairs and we’ve had heat indexes in Oklahoma up to 110. My real estate agent helped me get this warranty with American Home Shield and I thought I had a policy which covered everything in the house. But when my refrigerator broke down, I found out I didn’t have the policy I thought I had and I had to pay for the refrigerator.
Good morning Bob,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your air conditioner system repaired under your warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was about my dryer. It was making a really odd sound and would be burning something up. I submitted the claim online and I got a text and an email from American Home Shield. I finally heard from the company that AHS was gonna send out in a day or two. The tech came and opened the dryer up. He brought a part and put it in and he fixed it. It was all taken care of in one appointment. It was prompt and quick and I was very happy with that service. It made me feel like it was worth having the policies through AHS for that. However, I was struggling with my water heater since January. We could have fixed it easily, but it was unfortunate for me. The water heater is a dual fuel system something and I just kept at it. I was hoping for the guys who installed it to come and take a look at it, but they were not lenders of AHS, so they couldn't do it.
Eventually, AHS agreed to let the guys who installed it come and take a look because there was nobody else who knew anything about it. It's a tankless water heater that fills my furnace. The guy came in and he deep cleaned something. He said, "This is not a good part. I might have to replace it. Hopefully, this will work," and he did it. The water heater has been working since then. I'm glad American Home Shield helped me out and I know that if it's a noncomplicated issue, they will be all over it. I just wished that they had told me that they didn't know what to do with the heater and to go with my guy at the very beginning. But I'm still with AHS and I believe they provide good service.

I submit claims with American Home Shield online, which is much easier than trying to do it on the phone. It takes about 15 minutes online and about two and a half hours on the phone. I recently did a claim when the compressor on my air conditioner went out. The contractor was very good and did an excellent job. On the first day they came out, they were just doing a regular cleaning, and then after they did the cleaning, I paid $124. And then a week later, my air conditioner broke down, so they came back and fixed it for free except for the $100 deductible. I've been with American Home Shield for a long time, and they’ve always been very prompt and efficient in everything they do for me. They are outstanding and very professional.

I was hearing a sound in my AC. I submitted a claim and Total Air was the company that was assigned to me. They already came out last year to service the same unit and they put a coolant in. When I tried to make an appointment for the claim I filed this time, I got their voicemail. A lady then called me back the next morning and she told me that somebody will call me back. But nobody did. A week passed and I called them back and asked them if they could set up the appointment. They then came out but they didn't do anything to the AC.
The guy who came told me that he can't fix the sound and that going by the numbers, the unit is okay at the moment. Then, the second time I made an appointment with them for the outside AC unit whose fan is not working, I called them as soon as I got the text message from AHS letting me know that somebody would contact me within 24 to 48 hours. I told them that I can't wait a week for them to call me back to make an appointment. The rep I spoke said yes and set up the appointment within two days, which was awesome.
We also had AHS replace our water heater last year. We were confused by their process because they came and brought us a smaller water heater than normal. They just added an attachment to it at the top. I was like, “Why did you take my 80-gallon tank and put in a 50 with a 3,000 server house?" It was insane. But the guys told us that it was AHS approved. And I actually think we have more hot water now.
We've been happy with American Home Shield. It's very valuable to us and we couldn't live without it. We’ve had so many things happen which we didn’t think would ever happen. So the $50 a month that we pay to have that assurance that if we needed anything, we can have it and only $100 deductible is amazing. It would have cost us a lot more than that to do all the things that happened so far. Also, the contractors they have sent have always been great. I highly recommend American Home Shield. I've already told my neighbors about them.

I had a claim that I submitted over the phone with AHS and the process went fine. The AC wasn’t cooling and although the fan was running, the unit was blowing hot air. The contractor from Inner Green Services came out and he was fine. He told us that he'd call back at 10 o’clock in the morning and he came that morning. And since the repair, the AC has been working okay. I got along fine with American Home Shield and I've been with them for close to a year. I felt like I needed to have something in case anything went wrong with any of the appliances. However, my bill with AHS went up and I wasn’t notified of that.

American Home Shield has been really great with all our claims. However, I've been having an issue since I paid for another year's worth of warranty and their guy gave me 75% off the total price. So, I only paid $730. But then, they keep telling me that I owe the 75 that he gave me off. I just got a threatening email that they're going to send me to claims. I've called twice and talked to two different people there about the money that I do not owe them and despite knowing that I don't owe it, they still haven't fixed the problem. The first lady I talked to even said that she had no idea why the amount owed is on my account. She told me to ignore it as she didn't even know what it was for. However, I kept getting more emails and their guy was saying that was because I didn't pay for the full price for the year's worth of coverage. I then told him that it was because I didn't have to. Still, I'm happy with AHS' service, just not this weird feeling situation.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been okay, but I don't like the turnaround time for the contractor to come out. Sometimes, it could be three to four days before they can get out there and fix the problem. Instead of using a plumber or electrician in the local area, they use somebody in Montgomery and that’s about an hour from here. But for the most part, the contractors are professional and knowledgeable about what they are doing.
I recently had a problem with the air condition that was leaking in the attic and I didn’t know it was leaking outside, too. I just noticed that yesterday. The techs fixed the issue in the attic, but they didn’t check the outside of it in the main system. It was fixed the same day, but they only checked one system. They should’ve checked the one on the outside unit too because it’s running on the same system. I still got that leak and it could be the cause of more damage. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is really good to have and I’ve recommended them to several homeowners.

American Home Shield is a waste of money, and I was extremely disappointed that when I really needed it for something, they weren't able to come through. Multiple people lied to me about what was covered and what was not. And then when I needed to use the service, they told me I couldn’t even after they had told me multiple times that I could use it for that particular thing. At this time, I wouldn't be able to service my heating and cooling system.
There was one positive experience I had. I recently submitted a plumbing claim and going through the claim process was fine. I did it online since it was easier, and I didn’t have to be on hold for hours at a time. Any time I've ever called in, it was always a long wait. The contractor was good and now, we can use our bathroom, which we weren't able to use before. But still, I'm only sticking with AHS because I've already invested so much time and money. I don’t like AHS and I would never recommend it to anybody unless they have some kind of desperate need for it.

We have a 28-year old air conditioner and it wasn't working. We submitted a claim via American Home Shield's website and the company that came out and looked at it was very helpful. They found the leak in the condenser. However, the big issue for us was that the unit is an 8 SEER and we would rather replace it than fix it. But that wasn't how it was written up. We were offered $260 for our air conditioner. We're probably gonna bypass AHS and get our air conditioner replaced, and discontinue our contract with them by the end of July.
Another challenge that we had with AHS was, we got charged the $75 fee the time we had a claim after the hurricane. The call center in Houston was not open and I waited three different times over an hour and a half to try to talk to somebody. I even had to give up because I had other things to do. And then when we did get in touch with somebody, they finally got somebody out to look at our air conditioner. However, the company that they sent out lied about calling us. They were supposed to call us prior to coming out but they never did. And they claimed they did.
My wife and I had no missed calls, and there were no missed calls on our home phone. And they charged us the $75 anyway. It became a big ordeal. We contacted the lady who was here in Florida over AHS and she told us that she would reimburse the $75 if we had the air conditioner looked at again or on our next air conditioner claim. But we already had our first air conditioner replaced and we also had to come out and do our second air conditioner, and we still got billed for the $75 service fee. So she wasn’t responsive to reimbursing the $75.
I haven’t done anything else with AHS because I’m fearful that I’m gonna pay the $75 and not get the service that the homeowner that owned the house prior to us had paid for. I haven’t notified him because I know he will come back to AHS to get his $600 back, because he was very upset after our first incident. I will not recommend them to a friend.

Our AC wasn't cooling the house and I went online to submit a claim which was easy enough to do. American Home Shield responded quickly but I wasn't happy with the contractor they sent. When he came out, he said it was a new unit and told me that he went and hooked up the gauges but it seemed like there was plenty of pressure so I probably have some other issue. He was half right because I did have another issue. I needed to put insulation in the attic and since putting 16 inches of it, I still have some issues with the unit cooling the house on hot days. But the things he said were probably wrong such that the duct work didn’t have any insulation on it. It was not true since it was insulated really well so he really didn’t get a pressure reading or do anything else. He just made a determination that it couldn't have been Freon and he was done in five minutes.
I didn’t file another claim because if I paid another $75 to have a guy come out, I'd have $150 in it for somebody doing nothing. Then, when I go to the website, I can't see anything but "You want to file a claim again." I don’t want the same company out here for another 75 bucks. But aside from that claim, I also had a locksmith come out to change all the locks and that went well.

I continued to tell A-1 Quality that the problem was that after a period of time, our AC's blower would stop blowing air but they never addressed that issue. When they installed the new compressor which was the last thing they did over a period of four visits, it stopped working again. We called in again. They called me, and the dispatcher was on the phone with me and she was gonna send a different guy out to take a look, and she was telling me that I’m setting my thermostat too low. And I’ve never heard of that so we were having a small debate that the coil is 40 degrees less than the setting on the thermostat and you freeze the coil. The coil will freeze if you’re not blowing air across it.
She got the owner of A-1 on speakerphone in the background, and he was listening to her. He was not talking directly to me and he started to make all these yelling noises in the background. And I was not really getting it completely clear and I stopped, and she didn’t say anything. And I heard the owner berating her for getting into a debate with a customer on the phone. I haven’t used foul language and I haven’t done anything. I just wanna get my air conditioning fixed. And I was having a debate with her and she was gonna schedule a guy. She hangs up on me. So, I immediately call back and leave a voicemail and say, “Hey, I hope you’re okay because it sounds like he was yelling at you at the end there, and I don’t think you were being inappropriate with me at all.”
When I opened yet another case, A-1 refused the case and it went to the next people and Climate Pros started on it. A new guy from Climate Pros came out and that was visit number five. So, I’ve had six visits so far but my air conditioner still does not work. And the last guy who opened up the unit said when he installed the compressor, it arced and it was blowing the circuit. So, he was saying it damaged the entire unit because he installed it in properly. So now, I’m waiting for American Home Shield to approve a complete replacement And Climate Pros is telling me that American Home Shield’s going back and forth with A-1 because they want them to warranty their own work. And Climate Pros is saying they're not gonna warranty A-1's work. They need to warranty their own work. So, I’m caught in the middle here.
I have a wine room, and I had to go out and buy an air conditioning system. So, I’m out of $700 for the wine room AC that I had to put in to save my wine. It was fine for it was something I was considering doing. It’s an eyesore but we were able to regulate the wine room by keeping the house cool and blowing the air into that wine room. I had surgery almost two weeks ago and as of right now, I’m recovering in a house that’s 90 degrees. And I’m still waiting for word from AHS that they're approving the new company’s recommendation. The previous owners put in a 5-ton compressor with a 3-ton furnace. And AHS is recommending we gotta balance it because that was the original problem. The two units are not balanced.
I’m beside myself. We’ve been doing this for two months going back and forth. We’re a worst-case scenario, and I spent the extra money to get the best home warranty money can buy and I feel AHS has dropped the ball. They don’t have somebody managing this case. Every time I call, I have to start all over again through the menu system. And they won’t transfer me to a supervisor. So, every time I call, it’s a 45-minutes to an hour and 15-minutes phone call. And I called probably 10 times and I’ve picked up the phone every day for 14 work days now in a row. I have a side business as a consultant and that time is money for me. I’ve been calling the guy from Climate Pros instead because he actually picks up the cell phone and I can talk to a human. He gave me an update this morning saying AHS was asking him to provide details on exactly what equipment they want to install. So, my hope is that they’re gonna replace the whole thing.

The air condition in my bedroom is supposed to start when the temperature on the thermostat goes beyond the range. So, if I set the temperature to be 75, it should start at 76. But, what was happening was that it was starting when it got to 78 and 79 and then it would run all the way to 74. So in the night, it got very hot and we were getting disturbed sleep. And it’s a fairly new system because it’s just two years old.
Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was very easy to do online. However, I was not very thrilled with the contractor. The person who came looked very adept, but he looked at the thermostat, opened it up, removed the fan and said the ball bearing in the fan was gone, so he replaced the fan. But the decision was made quickly without doing a proper diagnosis. Plus he replaced the fan with some local company and we don’t know the durability of that brand. If it goes out after a year, then we’ll end up doing the service again. So, I insisted that he use the same brand, and he said, “I don’t have it. You either take it or you don’t.” I didn’t have a choice because my air conditioner was broken.
Also, his whole handling was not very neat because of a lot of scratches that he created on top of that. Beauty doesn’t matter, but the scratches now could have caused rust on it because it is exposed to water from rain. Even after that, my problem was not solved. It has definitely improved over time, but my air conditioner still sometimes waits till 76 or 77 before it starts. Ultimately, we made an internal arrangement to address that. We have started the humidification to be set so that it doesn’t go as high as 75 or 79 because there’s another preserved for the humidification.
We asked them to come back and take a look at it, and they gave me a time when they were gonna come, but they came three hours before that and they insisted that they wanted to check it when they were gonna be at home. They also insisted that they would look at everything, and they said everything was fine and they left. So I’m not at all happy with the whole experience with that company.

I've been a realtor for 30 years and I've had American Home Shield for years but it's not working anymore. I have 15 houses and I once called in for an oven to be fixed in one house. American Home Shield was supposed to order a part but no one called my tenants back. No one touched base with me either. There was another time that they replaced the hot water heater but they didn't wanna do all this other work. There was $1,900 of work for a $400 hot water heater.
When an AC unit was not working, I had a problem with the guy from Arring's AC and Heating Service. The AC unit was not working correctly and on the first time Adam came out, he cleaned something. But it didn't work so the tenants called me back. Adam went out there again and said the AC was not working because there was not enough insulation in the attic. But that wouldn't make sense. These tenants have lived here for a year and a half, and we've not done anything with the insulation in the attic. The house may not be insulated as well as it should but that was not why the AC wasn't cooling.
Adam argued with me and the tenants, and I told him I was going to call my AC man, whom I've known for years. My AC guy went out there and as a matter of fact, he's going to replace a part and fix the AC today. Adam was full of crap and my poor tenants have been hot for a week. AHS should reimburse us for the part my AC guy is going to put on because we couldn't get them to do anything.
I've also had things done over the years but when I send my people out, they're like, "Oh my God, who did this?" It shouldn't be like that. The work should be done right. So I haven't had any good luck at all. The contractors who are going out there probably don't know what they're doing. But then American Home Shield hasn't been very helpful either. A few months back, there was a hot water heater that was leaking and American Home Shield's contractor couldn't get there because it was Mother's Day. So I had my other guy go out but when I tried to get reimbursed, American Home Shield denied that because their guy didn't go out there first. So it's like a fight every time. It's been a nightmare. Besides, I've had contractors go out in the past and when I sent in the receipt, American Home Shield reimbursed me for the parts that they cover.
The representative I spoke with said she would ask the supervisor and she was supposed to call me back. I even called back twice but they never returned my call. It's like a full time job for me to get American Home Shield to pay for anything. The tenant also said that the AC guy really had a lot of problems with the warranty company paying for anything anymore. I doubt whether we're gonna be renewing the warranty on any of these houses anymore. In fact, I have five checks but I'm getting in touch with the owner and recommend not to renew the warranty. If I'm gonna be paying 5,000 on all these houses to renew, I can have all the repairs done instead. We're just gonna use our own contractors and be done with it. I don't even have the warranty on my house. It was built in the 70's and I'd put a warranty on mine if I thought it would even be worth it but it's not.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

They’ll try to send somebody out, and they’re really nice. You can call them when you’re out of town or you have to cancel and you can reschedule at the night before and there has never been a problem. But they always seemed to be Johnny on the spot. They’ll call on the cellphone and contact me and let me know what is going on and when they can come and they are just great. I have no complaints about them.
The contractor who came out was very nice and very pleasant, and he did everything. This was a redo for the icemaker because we found out that the water was also running into the ice bucket and not just the little flask that it runs into. It was making one big gigantic block of ice, so he came back to fix the washer too. Now, we have ice again. He did a wonderful job.
American Home Shield is doing great. It’s a little expensive and it would probably take an eternity to try to get a new appliance, which is almost impossible. But for the service that they provided, they do a very good job. I would tell my friends to go with American Home Shield. If I need things to fix in my house, a regular service call is gonna cost me an arm and a leg. I had my ice machine replaced when I first got here and that was over $200. In the long run, AHS is cheaper and it is nice to know that I have the security of just picking up the phone and knowing who is going to fix it. I don’t have to mess around with Sears or Home Depot. I can also call them for numerous things in my house. It is great. And if something happens to it, I can call them back out and they will come back out without another service fee, which is fabulous because sometimes like those happen.

I had a person from Wolfer's come out to clean my furnace to get ready for summer. He told me that the pan that has the condenser above it in the air conditioning is for the water, but it shouldn’t be full of water. When I looked at it, it was full of water. He poured water in there and then he put bleach as well. He then said that the pipe that goes out where the water is was not draining properly and that it was draining underneath my house.
So I was concerned if I wanted someone to come out for my furnace and see if the water was draining underneath my house. I had several people for the furnace coming but nobody ever said anything about that except the guy from Wolfer's, who's not under AHS. I asked him how much would be the overflow valve cost and he said about 300 bucks. I told him that he needs to get that water out, but he said that they normally don’t do that. But then I said that since he poured the water in there, he should take it out. He did take it out at the threat of me. But I was still concerned so I called AHS in order for the furnace people to come out and check to make sure that there wasn’t anything wrong with the condenser and that the overflow was not going underneath my house, because I've had plumbers and people from the furnace go under there and they have always told me that the underneath was dry.
When I filed a claim with AHS, they had somebody set up and then we made an appointment and the contractor came out on the day of the appointment right away. So, that was a good experience. A guy from NW Sundance came out and he showed me where the overflow valve goes out of the house next to the air conditioner cooling unit, which is on the other side of the house. We traveled quite a bit and it was downhill. He came out and cleaned everything up and I didn’t have any more problems. I trusted him because he showed me everything that I needed to know. He said that everything was normal on my furnace and that I didn’t need to worry about it. I was secure in the knowledge that there wasn’t anything going underneath my house and that the condenser unit was not overflowing like the guy from Wolfer's tried to tell me.
I'm not going to call Wolfer's anymore. I would call NW Sundance since they were very good and I liked their product, even though their yearly fee for checking everything out is more expensive. I get a senior discount so it would come down to $149 down from a $160, and I'm willing to pay that extra just for peace of mind. I have older appliances and so I use AHS about two times a year. There has been a couple of contractors sent by AHS that weren’t very good but I haven't seen them come out anymore. I'm happy with AHS and I would recommend them to other people.

The air conditioner was acting up and it wasn’t cooling. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and navigating through the website was simple. It was very user-friendly. Then it didn't take long to get a contractor out. The tech who came was great. He added Freon for us and the unit is cooling now. Everything has been great since the repair. The AC is doing its typical summer thing and it's not near as bad as it was. It was my first time using the warranty and I was satisfied with my experience. All in all, having a warranty on our property is very valuable. If anything goes wrong or if we’re in a financial situation, we know that we’re gonna be okay.

I called American Home Shield for an issue with the plumbing and had a good experience dealing with the rep I got. However, the issue ended up not being a covered item. The plumbing issue really wasn’t within the house but in the street where the sewers are. So I called the town. The town sent somebody out right away and solved the problem. I've used American Home Shield for other things and their service is very good. Although sometimes the response time is not quick enough.

The day before July 4th my air conditioner went out. In Texas right now the temps are averaging 100 degrees, every day! I called AHS, to report and was given a service company called Meyagies to repair it. I immediately called them that day and was able to get them out there on Thursday the 5th. After the service repairman diagnosed the problem he said he would have to get an Authorization from AHS to do the repairs. I called Meyagies on Friday morning to make sure this was done. Their service tech did not turn in the appropriate paper work to get it authorized and the dispatch had to call him to get him to send in the Easy Sheet to AHS for authorization. I called AHS later that day to see if they had received the paperwork and they had not. I called Meyagies back and asked them to resend it.
In the meantime I still have NO AIR CONDITIONING SINCE TUESDAY AND IT IS NOW FRIDAY!!! I was told by customer service rep with AHS that she would call me as soon as service had been authorized. Today is Tuesday the 10th and I have still not heard from AHS or Meyagies Heat & Air Service. I pay over $800.00 a year for the contract with AHS and this is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I paid my $75.00 call out fee and I pay my monthly bill. Why can't they provided a simple service within a reasonable amount of time??? I am going to cancel my contract with AHS and will share on every public posting I can to let people know how they did an 84 year old widow in the 100 degree Texas heat.
By the way, I called a private company on Friday and the young man came out and put 4 lbs of Freon in my unit "FOR FREE!!!" to try and see if it would hold me until AHS called... So, I decided to go with his company and they came out today "Tuesday" and fixed my air conditioner. I have wasted enough time with AHS and needed to be able to sleep in something other than a 100 degree home. SHAME ON YOU AMERICAN HOME SHIELD FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AN 84 YEAR OLD WIDOW...

I have had AHS for approximately 6 years. 5 years ago the well pump went out and American Home Shield replaced the Pump the next day after I contacted them, about a year later the A/C went out. A tech came out the same day and determined that the compressor was out, 3 days later the condenser unit was replaced. Jump forward to July 2018, I contacted AHS on July 2 and put in a claim that the A/C is now freezing up. Arctic Air was contacted by AHS, they contacted me and said they would be out on Thursday July 5, late AM, they did not show up until late AM on Friday, July 6.
The tech said the return air duct was not big enough, the expansion valve is sticking and the coil needs to be cleaned. He left without doing any work. It is now July 10, AHS called and said the claim was denied. My question is if the return air was good enough 4 years ago why is it not good enough now? Meanwhile 8 days later we still have the same issue. I am seriously considering stopping my coverage for AHS as I have sent them a lot of money in the last 6 years and now when I need them to cover something that I am paying for in the warranty it is denied.

I have spent a total of 6 hours on the phone trying to fix AHS mistake, I called on 6/28/18 to update my payment information. I updated it and was assured after asking if this would affect the payment coming out the following day the 29th. I was charged 2 $25.00 overdraft fees as the funds were not supposed to come out of the previous account information. I called back to get the payment info fixed and decided to cancel the warranty. I have called 5 times and spent a total of 6 hours, not including the 45 min I have currently been on hold trying to get it fixed.
Currently I am being told it was NOT AHS fault and they will not give me a refund or cover my fees after I was told the opposite 2 days ago if I faxed in proof. I was promised a call back for cancellation 3 times within 24 to 48 hours and have not heard a word and customer care PROMISED a call back as well and never did. Buyer beware, it's impossible to cancel with them. Their cancellation can only be done over the phone and when they transfer you to them it goes to a voicemail!!!

Updated on 12/26/2018: I am finally cancelling my American Home Shield insurance today after years of terrible service. We have a plug in our sewer line and AHS took 3-4 days to send someone to our house. Finally when the plumber came, they said that insurance will not cover removing the toilet to "snake through the pipe" and put it back and it will cost us $600 out of pocket. In front of the plumber, I called a private plumber who told us that insurance should cover it and that the most it would cost is $250. We had to reschedule and it caused another delay for us. AHS and their associates do everything they can to frustrate you and not get the work done. EVERY TIME you call American Home Shield you are on hold for at least 1 hour and they give you problems about fixing anything and covering it. DO NOT BUY.
Original Review: Our AC has been broken and AHS sent out a technician. This technician spent 5 minutes at our house, was extremely rude, and left without fixing anything. He told AHS that we have a missing filter on our AC and he refused to service the AC. The filter is not required, however AHS is siding with the technician's flawed diagnosis and refusing to cover the AC under warranty. This is the same AC that AHS contracted to install and serviced last year.
AHS placed me on hold for 80 minutes then hung up on me without warning. They are looking for any and every excuse to deny warranty and they do not care about their customers. It takes at least 20 minutes of being on hold to finally speak to someone, and when you do they repeatedly place you on longer and longer holds in hopes that you would hang up. Terrible company, DO NOT PURCHASE WARRANTY FROM THEM. They do not care about their customers.

Here I am, almost 1.5 months after first initiating a claim on my busted refrigerator, and it's still leaking on the floor and not cold. I thought this was the type of thing insurance was supposed to protect you from - not cause! But here I am, still making monthly payments, waiting on service techs, unable to justify buying a new fridge out of pocket due to hundreds already sunk into this "service" and living in a veritable third-world of room-temp icebox and bumming space in friends & acquaintances fridges because this so-called "American Home Shield" seems only able to shield me from getting in touch with any single real person who might be able to help.
Never mind that the "Service Contract" "protects" me, or that the replacement of broken appliances seems to just never quite happen, and service techs seem to just never quite know if it's, you know *really* broken or not (wink wink!). If they ever come through on this fridge, I'll update my review - so you know if you're reading this I'm still drinking tepid water somewhere! Bottom line: if you're thinking about signing up for American Home Shield, save yourself the time and just buy someone you hate dinner to the tune of about $50/month.
Update: 08/20/2018
Well, AFTER I posted a 1 star, negative review, I got a "social media" specialist from AHS calling me every week or so. A lot of help that did getting my refrigerator fixed except it's still not working properly. AHS: "No problem! just go back on the site and request another service call!" That'd be nice, except every time I get to the final page on the site now it says "An error has occurred." And won't submit or schedule the fix.
So, just to review: My fridge is still broken after 2 service visits and over a quarter of the year. I have sunk hundreds into AHS in monthly payments and now cannot even schedule a service call to try to continue the process of them sending someone to "fix" the fridge. I have still sunk too much money into AHS to justify going out and buying a new fridge myself, so, that's where they get you. I'm sure I will have a "social media specialist" "reach out" to me about this post over and over, again, my previous review is marked as RESOLVED! because someone DID finally (after a month) come out and get the freezer working again, for a week, but now it's out and I can't schedule another service call, AND I can't edit my "Resolved!" review, so there is this illusion that this company is actually taking care of people. I just have no words at this point.
Update: 09/05/2018
The title says it all. Overall timeline of my experience is as follows: 05/23/2018 was date on which initial service request for the fridge was made. There have been 2 service calls by AHS contractor and the fridge was fixed on neither occasion. The 3rd service call was scheduled for 8/31 and cancelled by AHS contractor on 8/30. At this point, fridge is not fixed, nor has AHS begun the process of replacing, nor have they made any effort to expedite the service process (>3weeks between each service visit). Don't waste your money.

I usually don't write ANY reviews. Don't have social media, don't leave Yelp reviews. But god damn...this place had me pulling my hair out. I'll try and make this as short as possible. I was given a home warranty package when my Wife and I bought our new home. $75 deductible to have a specialist come out and attempt to fix any issue/appliance in your home. If it can't be replaced, AHS would reimburse a cash-in-lieu payment (max limits on certain appliances). Week 1 - called about a simple faucet leak. Local plumber comes out, takes 5 mins and determines the faucet needed to be replaced (broken cartridge). He reports his findings to AHS. After days with no response, I called AHS to follow up. At that time, I was told I needed a 2nd opinion before the faucet could be replaced.
Week 2 - 2nd local plumber comes to home. He takes one look at the faucet and determines it needs to be replaced. When I mentioned to him he was the 2nd plumber in 2 weeks sent by AHS, he laughed and said "These are the games that they play". Plumber sends his report to AHS. Week 3 - Multiple calls into AHS about my cash-in-lieu reimbursement. Put on hold for 20-30 mins at a time, and sometimes HUNG UP on for no reason. Lol. After multiple calls, one AHS rep told me they never received a diagnoses/report from the 2nd plumber. I called the local plumbing company, who stated that they had sent in their report multiple times without acknowledgment from AHS. The receptionist at the plumbing company said, "I have to deal with AHS every day, they are the worst". LOL.
Week 4 - More calls to AHS about my cash-in-lieu payout. Given the run-around. Being told that plumbers report was never received and that they would look into it and call me back. LAST thing I'll say. If you ignore my personal experience, listen to this. I called BBB and Consumer Affairs. They both stated that they receive multiple complaints such as mine in regards to AHS. They said "We are sorry you have to deal with them" and urged me to never use them again. Bottom line - if you have a simple repair that can be performed by a local specialist, they'll fix it. If an item is broken and needs to be replaced...you are **. Their business model is to wear you down until you give up and ask for your $75 deductible back. STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!!!

I had stoppage in my water line so that backed up and it ended up pushing all the water up the kitchen sink and I had sand and water in my kitchen. I moved into the house and the home inspection somehow passed the water line. I had Freedom Plumbing come out but the technician didn’t have the right tools. So, he left and I had to do a recall. I called back and got a second opinion. Then, AHS sent Randall and Sons out, and the technician ended up fixing the sink. But the water pipe from the washer is still not fixed. So now, I’ve been battling in trying to get somebody to come back out and re-fix it but it has been a nightmare. I was supposed to hear back from somebody on Thursday, this was round three, and I still have received no phone call, my issues are not fixed and this has been three weeks now.
I had called back again and suggested not to have Freedom Plumbing back out. I was on the phone fighting forever with that and I’m still nowhere. I still don’t have anybody coming out to fix the water pipe. Also, American Home Shield was trying to tell me that they can’t recall a recall and I just went on and I asked why do I have home warranty? Why did I buy a home warranty package if they can’t fix my issues? I just got my house in May. It is July now and I still can’t use and do anything with my washer. We had to rip up sub-flooring in my utility room and lay new flooring. It has been a little bit of a disaster working with American Home Shield. I am very dissatisfied.
It’s a little aggravating when they advertise that they are a home warranty company and then I’m fighting and puling teeth trying to get my issues fixed. I’ve been told two or three times now that I will receive a call back and I have no returns. I asked for direct lines but they said I can’t have anything. So, it’s very hard to contact. I’ve gotten absolutely no reports nor emails except for the newsletters.

American Home Shield is difficult. I submitted a claim for my water heater at the end of May, the weekend of Memorial Day. They kept telling me that the contractor has got the job scheduled, but the guy kept on not showing up. AHS' reps did what they could do but when the contractor doesn’t answer his phone or feeds them something, they would go by what they hear from him. My electrician then recommended somebody and they happened to know the owner of JK Plumbing. They then went and got the water heater, installed it, and billed JK Plumbing for it. AHS has now given me a new plumbing company, Watson Plumbing & Mechanical, that's finishing the job.

I had a claim for an evaporative cooler and I found the website user-friendly in submitting the claim online. The contractor came out on time and during the specified time. He looked at the unit and was able to resolve the issue on the spot. A couple of filters were added and the unit's been working fine since then. The other claim I had with American Home Shield was for a pool pump and I thought the unit was covered. When I renewed the warranty, I added a spa on the dropdown menu. But what I’m calling a spa is not what they considered a spa. The contractor came out thinking that it was a spa that I have in my bathroom, not a Jacuzzi.
It didn’t matter whether it was covered or not though. I just wanted the thing fixed. But they didn’t even look at it and said it wasn’t something I could do. They also charged me $75 rather than just say it was not actually covered. I had a problem with that and I was really frustrated. I can also understand how maybe there’s a difference between a spa and a Jacuzzi but they couldn’t even give me an estimate. Maybe they didn’t have the right skillset. Then when I called American Home Shield, I was told there was nothing they could do. But outside of that, American Home Shield did fine the other two times I used them and I’m happy so far.

I own three properties that American Home Shield has taken care of and they're actually easy. They're in the process of fixing one right now on one of my properties and they’ve gotten through finishing one of my other duplexes, and they did a great job. I just call them whenever I submit my claims and when I deal with someone in the United States, it is fine. But when I dealt with someone out of the United States, it is horrible. American Home Shield itself is a great company, but every time I deal with someone out of the United States, they don’t get it. They don’t understand my rentals.
I have two duplexes and they have two different addresses. One address faces one street, which is Karlsberg, and the other one faces another address, which is Kelley. They keep telling me that that they're not gonna cover the other property and I keep telling them, “No.” If they pull the address up on Google, it is one property and that American Home Shield covers it. But if I call and talk to someone from the United States, they tell me to not worry about it and that it's covered. And they take care of it.
The contractor was wonderful. Galloway Appliance had worked on several of my issues in the past and they are fabulous. They come in, they clean up after themselves, and they take the product back. They are very respectful and very kind. They call me when they're on their way, they call me in advance when they set up the appointment, and they make sure it works for me. They worked on my washer and dryer. We had a hard time figuring out what was wrong with my washer and dryer and I wanted to keep my washer and dryer because I didn’t want a new one.
I kept calling them and saying that it was still having a problem. They said that whatever it was, they'd figure it out. They didn’t get upset with me when I kept sending them pictures showing them the problem hasn’t been fixed. They came out three or four times before they figured out what the problem was and they fixed it, and I don’t have problems with my washer and dryer anymore. They were very patient with me. And this last time, they couldn’t get to my trash compactor to repair it, so they let me get my guy out here to fix it so they can get it out. They're coming back again and I don’t have to put another hole in my cabinet.
They were respectful and they cleaned up after their mess and they communicated with me, unlike the plumber that was sent out at my place to fix something. I don’t ever get frustrated with Galloway Plumbing and I like them. I also like the fact that when I get frustrated with some people I'm talking to on the phone, I instant message American Home Shield and I can get through to somebody that will take care of my issue. When I was frustrated when I was talking someone in another country, I was able to instant message somebody saying, “Hey, I'm frustrated. Can I talk to somebody in the United States?” And they said, “Yes. Call this number.” I like now that when I call, they'll call me back and it's not a long wait.
I can always, within 24 hours, have a contractor go out rather than just a handyman. And that’s what I like about American Home Shield. It's the contractor that goes out. I would definitely recommend AHS to a friend because sometimes it takes the hassle out of things not knowing who to call and you just call American Home Shield. It's a one-stop shop. I've also already told Galloway Appliance I would recommend them to anybody even if they weren’t through American Home Shield.

There was something wrong with my AC switch. It was a Friday when the AC went out. I was at work and I called AHS to submit my claim because I did not have my information at that time to log in. Initially, when we did the claim, there was supposed to be a company and AHS said that they would come in that Monday. Also, they said that if it was an emergency, they would come in in that weekend. It was in the 100s and my house was so hot so I called back and I said, “Could someone do it on the emergency basis?” And the AHS rep took about 30 minutes calling every company she could to get someone out to repair it. She was excellent. The contractor that came was very good and he answered all of my questions. He was a little bit difficult to understand because he had an accent but he pointed out some things that I needed to do in the future, which I have done. The AC has been working perfectly since the repair.
The only thing is I did not know that you could request an emergency repair. Going in, if the AHS rep could ask, “Would you consider this an emergency?” That would have been efficient because if I would’ve known that at the time that I made the claim, then I would not have to call back. Other than that, I have recommended AHS. I've told others about my experiences and though I cannot vouch for any other home warranty companies but I could vouch for American Home Shield.
