Our experience with American Home Shield has been great. Although I’ve had a couple of problems with the vendors that they've sent out, those were resolved really quickly. Once, I had a company come to fix my A/C unit that didn’t have a ladder. It was bizarre to me. I called American Home Shield back and as I was waiting to schedule a visit, they already sent another vendor to deal with it. So they're really quick in dealing with issues like that.
I’d like to be able to give more information about my issue when I do the service call though. Right now I have a transformer and a light fixture set claim, and I was able to get the serial number but there was no way for me to translate that to the guy who came out. So he came out, took a picture of it and has now ordered the part. But I knew what needed to be changed because my building maintenance guy had looked at the problem. I could have informed the technician beforehand instead of him having to go back out and get one. It's a super minor thing but it would save everybody's time.

We had American Home Shield when we first bought the house and kept it for a couple of years. I was really ecstatic that we could add it back. We’ve lived here for 15 years and we haven’t added it for about 12 years. When we saw that it was available to add back in, we did and it turned out to be absolutely fabulous. When the pool sweeper wouldn’t sweep the pool, we were getting lots of debris and we couldn’t get the pool clean. We didn’t know what was going on with it. It would run, but it wouldn’t move, so we called American Home Shield, although all the communication was online and we got emails.
The contractor who came out from Watertight Pool & Spa was great. When he got here, he had everything to fix the problem and the process was really quick and efficient. It worried me because I was afraid we were gonna have to have whole new systems, but it ended up being some valve on the pool sweeper had broken. It was some old part and all he did was replace the valve.
The heater also went out in the winter and then it got a 110 here and the air conditioning went out. Everything was working on the air conditioner except the switch, so the system wouldn’t ever kick on. All the contractor had to do was replace the switch. It’s been one thing after another. I don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t had AHS. In a way, I’m thrilled we have it because I’d rather pay a hundred dollars that could have been thousands to repair it. They really know what they are doing. Everybody came out and fixed the issues, so the experience has been great. I love AHS and we have already recommended them to multiple people. We tell everybody that when they buy a house, tell the seller that they want them to put at least a one-year warranty on the home and do it with AHS.

We’ve been with American Home Shield since we bought the house in December. The seller paid for it and we've used it, and it’s fine. Overall they're at the top of the list.

I called in my hot water tank issue and I paid my deductible to AHS. I called it in for my tenant and explained to them that somebody would be out there. The tech did the diagnostics and said that the whole hot water heater needed to be replaced because it wasn’t something that could have been repaired. They had to remove the old one and they had to put in a new one. They also had to change some type of piping on it and after they did the piping, they were also gonna certify it because you gotta get it certified for the fire marshal. I approved that work to get done and once that work was done, my tenant was still not getting hot water.
I paid for a plumber to come out and found out what was going on with the hot water. He told me that it was something electrical and by being electrical, now it was out of pocket with them. I called American Home Shield back and told them that the company that installed my hot water heater was the company that they suggested and I paid for them to do the work but I still don’t have hot water. I also explained to them that if I needed an electrician and the hot water heater wasn’t getting any electricity to us then that means we didn’t need to change the hot water heater out. I had the electrician fix the problem and all in all, it was just an electrical problem. Since the repair, the hot water heater started working.

The air conditioner started sputtering and there was obviously something wrong with it so we called American Home Shield. They sent Abbott and I was very pleased with the Abbott people. They determined that the unit was damaged so they tried to look around what might have damaged it. Since we had a roof installed, they determined it must have been down the roof. There was no proof but since they determined it was damaged, American Home Shield said that they wouldn’t be covering it because they only cover regular wear and tear. We called the roofer and he said it couldn’t have been him. He called McDonald, another AC company, who said that the unit wasn’t damaged and it was just old. We just need to add some freon and that will be done.
The Abbott people also said it needed freon but they refused to put it saying the freon would kill the unit permanently. We called American Home Shield back and told them that Abbott said it was damaged and couldn’t be fixed. We also had McDonald who said it could be fixed. AHS said okay and since McDonald isn’t on their list, AHS called another company that said it was damaged which washed their hands from it. We went to our home insurance, Liberty Mutual, who called the Sunrise people. Sunrise said that it was damaged and they should be able to fix it, put some freon and that should take care of it. We told them to go ahead and do it since we needed the air badly. Sunrise fixed the damaged coils and added the freon and that totally fried it. So, we were in a much worse situation from having some air to no air at all. The whole thing ended up being a whole drama and we’re still without our AC unit.
Since then, we’ve been trying to get contractors. American Home Shield was clear that they don’t fix damaged and they would have fixed it if it had been normal wear and tear. We’ve used them in the past for other things that we’ve had and they came through very well. It just so happened that the thing with the damaged and not damaged and who was taking responsibility for that. It was frustrating to find out that they don’t cover it if it was damaged. My first reaction was, “Why are we paying insurance?” I had friends telling me to cancel right now but it was clear in the policy and that we didn’t read the small print was more our fault than theirs.

I filed an air conditioning claim over the phone and American Home Shield got somebody out the next day. We had a good rapport with the contractor, and so far, the AC has been pretty good. I've done other stuff in the past and I wasn’t happy with the previous home warranty companies that I had. This is the first time I'm feeling confident about a home warranty company.

I had an air conditioning problem and it was simple to navigate the American Home Shield website to file the claim online. Their response was good and the contractor came out and fixed the AC unit. It would've cost me a little more money to service it and it still works now. Everything is good.

American Home Shield is usually very prompt in getting somebody assigned to the work requirement, and those folks usually come out and do a pretty good job. The AHS website is pretty easy to navigate, and the reps have been very professional and I have been very pleased with them.

The air conditioning was not blowing cool air recently and I made a claim for it online. I called Ambient and they came right out on the same day. The tech was excellent and did a great job. He came in, took care of business and then left. Everything was very professional. Everything's going fine and I have no issues with AHS.

Our washing machine had a leak in the basin that was then leaking on to the transmission, so that was then leaking oil. I went to American Home Shield's mobile site to submit the claim and it was very easy. They sent a contractor that we've had before and they did great. The guy said that he was worried that he won't be able to find the transmission but he'd go and look for it. He found it, came back and replaced the transmission, but the washer was still leaking. He then realized that the basin was leaking and he had never seen a basin like that leaked before, so he replaced it which he had to get the replacement part from American Home Shield.
In addition, he came in on a day when he was supposed to be beginning a vacation and got that replaced for us. He accidentally locked the door sensor ajar. He didn’t know that it was closed so it would still open and stop. He had to get someone else to come out and fix that because we couldn’t get ahold of the guy since he was on vacation. It was an easy fix. The repair took about three weeks and the washer has been great since the repairs. A lot of people say, “Watch out with the warranties because you don’t know who you’re gonna end up with,” but we’ve always had great service from AHS. I told someone who was working with the same realtor we had when we purchased the house that the home warranty is an option and they should go with it.

The water heater was overheating and it wouldn’t heat up. We had to have a hot water heater replaced so we filed an online claim with American Home Shield. I got a response pretty promptly. The first contractor came out and he wasn’t really sure what to do about it. He had never worked on this and what was wrong. So, he put in a request for a second opinion on what to do about it, and that was when Metro Supply came out. They determined why it was overheating and what needed to be done and it was resolved. Since then, the unit has been working fine. Both contractors were good and courteous, but Metro Supply was more experienced. I’d especially commend Metro Supply.

We were trying to get an air conditioner fixed back in May. The American Home Shield contractor came out and just added Freon to it which we paid for. Five weeks later, it was not cooling again so we called the same contractor. They came out and wanted to add some Freon again. They came so many times and how these men worked was repetitive. It was like they kept putting a band-aid on it and they wouldn't fix the problem. Finally, they said that they got to do a leak test. It was almost as though they were trying to just keep charging me. I'm not an air conditioner repair guy but if it was low on Freon five weeks later, I could see it was leaking. They came and said they were gonna do the leak test or change the evaporator coil but they had to submit a request to AHS to get this done. This was on a Wednesday and there was no urgency involved at all.
When the technician came on the third try, he said that he was the one to fix these kinds of problems. However, he dropped the ball and never even filled out the paperwork. I called Fitz on Friday afternoon to see if the request had been approved and the guy said he had misplaced the paperwork. There was no follow through with the technician. We're in Louisiana and it's not nice and cool down here. I called the technician back on a Monday and he said that he had just found the paperwork. At that time, my air conditioner was still not working.
A few days went by and I had to call again. I was told that they submitted the paperwork but they didn't call me to let me know. I was waiting for AHS to call me back and somebody finally called me the following Saturday. It was like everybody dragged their feet on it. My wife wasn't too happy with the service that was provided. The technician fixed other things like the disposal, our washer and dryer and it was fine. But somehow, on this air conditioner, they didn't want to get in the attic and fix it. We were without air conditioning for like five weeks total.
When the technician finally said they had permission to do the leak test which I thought was really ridiculous, they said they would be there the following Monday between 8:00 and 8:30. 10:00 came and no one was at the house yet. I understand if it was late in the day and they got behind on appointments but I was the first in line that day. I called them at 10:00 and asked them where they were. They said that they were just loading up the truck. I told them not to come anymore. I didn't wanna deal with them. AHS sent a guy from Bright Construction and he was great. He showed up the next morning. He went upstairs, walked into the attic and looked at the unit. He knew the unit had never been taken apart to even know if there was a need for a leak test. He changed up the evaporator coil and he was done in an hour.
I highly recommended American Home Shield in the past but probably not so much after this latest incident. They need to give the contractors a little more freedom to go ahead and fix the issue as opposed to have to wait and call in for approval. It just drags out and that's another day that people have to take off work. If I was paying a service fee, it shouldn't have taken that long like what the second guy did.
Jere,
Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your air conditioner request. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist.

Our ceiling fan was the remote type and the remote receiver went out on it so we could no longer use it. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I got a response within 48 hours. When their contractor, McClerklin’s Electrical Services, came out the first time, they said that they needed to replace a part. They ordered the part and came back three days later and got the fan fixed. AHS sent out very good and nice contractors. Since the repair, the fan has been performing sufficiently and to our liking. We asked for something that didn’t have a receiver and had a pull chain instead and they fixed it for us.

I like American Home Shield. When I file claims to AHS, I call and wait till I get to speak to someone and the reps are very nice. Once a claim is filed, a contractor contacts me no later than 24 hours. There was recently an issue with my AC. The contractor had one appointment before me and then, he came and then was gone within 15 minutes. He did a really good job on it. I've been with AHS for decades and there was only one time when AHS sent a bad guy out. I called and they said that he wouldn't come back here. However, to be able to call to get in and talk to somebody in service at AHS, I got to go through a lot of automated now. If they could cut down on that, that would be great.

One side of the house’s electricity wasn’t working and I called American Home Shield and they scheduled someone to come out that repaired it. I always call in and speak to a representative. They were very helpful. The rep I spoke with this time explained the process and gave me the tracking number and who was gonna come out and perform the service. Also, if the contractor didn’t contact me back within a certain number of hours, the rep gave me the number that I could contact them back to schedule myself and speak to see when someone was dispatched to come out. I also didn’t have to repeat myself. They did a good job.
The contractor did great as well. They were very informative, nice and courteous. They came in, identified the problem and fixed it, and they left. My electricity's working now. So, I was able to use the telephone and the basic needs that I need for day-to-day as far as the electricity. I’ve told a lot of people in the past that American Home Shield is a great benefit to have as far as when you’re owning a home. It cuts down on cost as far as repairs and maintenance. I’ve been with them for seven years and they’ve been very great.

You can trust American Home Shield and they're worth it. My air conditioning was not working when I turned it on. It was broke so I called American Home Shield and the claims representative was very professional. However, it took a long time to get a contractor because it was Saturday when I called and then they’re closed on Saturday. The contractor came to my home on Thursday and he was very good. The AC has been great since the repair. I just bought the home in June and it was not even two months when the air conditioning broke so having a warranty is really really valuable. I’d definitely renew next year.

VERY VERY VERY poor customer service, they lie with no problem. They know the call is recorded and still lie, you can't get a supervisor or anyone higher than a customer service rep. They put you on hold and hang up on you and never offer a callback. They try to find any reason not to cover your request for repair. I had an emergency A/C outage in 103 temp weather with an elderly lady in my home and they told me on a Friday night they didn't cover my A/C but still wanted me to pay $70 to have someone come out for service. Even with the FACT they didn't cover the item. Today is Aug 1st this has been since July 20th and I still can't get anyone on the phone with AHS to answer or reply to my request. I will be contacting the BBB!
Updated on 08/16/2018: After weeks of calling and being on hold and explaining the issue with my A/C, I have yet to have restitution from AHS. On Aug 8th 2018 a social media rep for AHS requested a copy of my $11,757 invoice for a replacement A/C unit that I was forced to pay out of pocket due to their customer service person telling me on July 20, 2018 at 6:30 pm a Friday my A/C was not covered.
In a panic I had no time to go back and forth with this C/S person I needed air, it was over 113* in my home. Stacy ** of AHS offered me $5,000 but welcomed me to contact an attorney, but she would see if she could get more and contact me by Fri (8/10/18). Didn't happen. As of 8/15/18 I have sat on hold for 2 hrs to hear from Chastie in the service dept, that she needed a copy of my invoice but can only pay what the coverage would have paid and can't tell me that amount until she go over the invoice. Give her 30 min. @2:57 pm she would call me back, still no call.
Today 8/16/18 called Stacy ** office. Spoke with Drinkerd. Said she was out of the office, asked for a supervisor. He stated they have no supervisor. Again he welcomed me to contact an attorney and social media (haha), the customer service for this company is a joke and I guess they have great job security because they don't care what they say. The fact they announce on every call you may be recorded for quality purpose is a joke. Oh and I am still waiting for the pulled call from the CS rep telling me my A/C was not covered on 7/20/18 and the CS rep telling me again on Aug 1st that my A/C was not covered. Supervisor Toni has not contacted me nor has CS rep Haley from Aug 8th.
If you are reading this post you can't reply but, you can post on ALL social media. AHS has had my business for 13 yrs and I have never had to go thru the hoops and stress like this. I have had bad service with them and just dealt with it but I don't have $11,757 additional to just blow off because AHS hired a person that did not give good basic customer service. With at least 12 complaints posted the same week if not day as my issue you can see I am not alone. Keep reading. They only put the 5 stars on their home page. You have to see Consumer Affairs page to get the truth on how poor their service is. MAKE IT RIGHT AHS.

I have had an AHS warranty contract on this home for over 9 years. I am on the automated payment plan. The previous owner also had an AHS warranty on the same property which was built in 1992. Both owners are Military service members. The Central heating unit is original to the home and is over 20 years old. My original contract and advertised claims stated that AHS will continue to fix the unit until it cannot be fix. A service request was made for the heating unit at the end of winter (lucky for us). This unit is over 20 years old. The subcontractor stated that the system is so old that parts will not be found. I have contacted AHS on 2 occasions to repair this unit in past years. In this case attempts have been made to locate the part and each time the incorrect part was sent to the subcontractor.
I contacted AHS over 7 times for this request, trying to get updates (waiting on the phone 45-over 60 mins). Only to have my time wasted by being told that a AHS rep will have to me call back. After years of paying my contract amount I was told that AHS cannot locate the part and it will only give me $300 for the unit. This is unacceptable. That amount will not even cover the labor cost. As an American Service member I do not feel secure leaving my family and knowing that 1. there is no heat and 2. I don't have a dependable home warranty company. There is no peace of mind when you really do need them.

I immediately called AHS and reported the issue and they verbalized that they would complete an investigation in regards to playing back the call with me and the operator before sending another vendor out. It was communicated that they would get back with me within 24 hours. It is now August 1st, and I have not heard from anyone. I am still having plumbing issues within my HOME! There was an issue with my toilet and my tub draining. I filed a claim for those with American Home Shield via phone and the contractor that they sent was an awesome professional. He was clean and he cleaned everything up that he touched and put on booties when coming in. He repaired the stuff well. There were no extra dings that he left behind. The toilet is better than it was the day it was installed. I also have one of those faucets where the end of the faucet pulls out as the little spray spout and the hose started to get a little bubble on it. He didn't repair that because it hadn't actually failed yet. He couldn't repair it unless it was a failure.
But AHS has improved greatly since a year ago. A year ago it was three-hour hold times and it has been nothing like that since about six months ago. They made a change like they got a new call center and it has been very pleasant. I’m so glad that they made the changes in their call center. It really means a lot that we can talk to somebody quickly now.

After requesting service for my A/C breakdown on 5/16/18, the contractor assigned to me went unresponsive to my calls for repair for 8 days. I then found another contractor that completed the repair, and sent an invoice to AHS (dba HSA) for the repair. They then began sending notices in the mail stating that my claim would not be covered due to a "pre-existing condition." My blower motor did NOT break down due to a pre-existing condition. It has worked perfectly for over 5 months since the day we moved in, evidenced by its performance in both heating and cooling up until the day of breakdown. My entire HVAC system has not had any malfunctions whatsoever prior to the motor breakdown on 5/16/18. This was definitively an acute and sudden breakdown that falls under the contractual coverage of my home warranty.
I have repeatedly contacted the company for resolution, and they have continued to refuse to cover my repair claiming that it is excluded due to "pre-existing condition". It CAN'T be a pre-existing condition because it worked perfectly until it broke. This company is acting fraudulently and should not be "backed" or "certified" by your organization.
Good afternoon Noah,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that you have experienced to have your HVAC system repaired. I would be lad to speak with you and address your concerns.

My swimming pool had an issue and I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. Navigating their website was very simple but I didn’t like that if I had multiple issues with my pool, it was very difficult to break these down. The website just allowed me to either put pool pump or pool filter in, and it didn't give me a lot of options to give a detailed report on what was happening. Prior to my swimming pool claim, I had a claim for my refrigerator which had an issue, but it took multiple call-outs and five months to fix it. The contractor had to get permission from AHS to order a part and that took four days. Then they ordered the part, which took a week. Then they put the part in, but that didn’t correct the problem, so they had to do it again and again, and so our ref was out for so long and we couldn't use it. It seemed like the contractor was afraid to ask AHS for permission to order more than one part at a time.
Having the warranty is valuable, so I've recommended AHS to family and friends. In fact, I recommended them to my sister who's a school teacher. But AHS is not all that it's cranked up to be. They don’t come out to fix things immediately. It takes time and you're at their mercy. Also, I get nervous about making a claim with them because then their rate will go up so much. I've made a couple of claims and they raised the rate from $68 to $115 a month, which is incredible, so I'm waiting for the most important thing that I can have a claim for again.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The tank of my toilet system broke and at that time, it didn’t occur to me that it had coverage with American Home Shield, so I got the unit scheduled for service. Eventually, before the company came out to do the service, I found out we that have coverage. I called in and AHS said that if it was something that was urgent, we might as well do it ourselves, but if it was not, they were gonna send somebody in to do the assessment. The guy who came out looked at the situation and said that from the way things were looking, something was put in too tight on the WC and cracked it.
From what he could see and based on his experience, AHS was not gonna cover that. However, he could call it in and provide the information that he had, and then we would wait for the whole process. That was gonna take too long. I had the new unit already and he would rather go ahead with the installation and then I pay for the service. He explained the situation as clear as I could understand. It was already about two weeks broken, so I didn’t want to wait any much longer than that.

I have been with American Home Shield since I bought the house in February 2016 and the interactions with them have been great. My AC went out and I called it in by Saturday or Sunday. The guy from A-US came out on Monday, checked it out, did the repair, and told me to turn the AC on. It was cold, so I was happy and everything since then has been great. Before that, I had some issues with the microwave and the refrigerator and American Home Shield has been there. The technicians came out and said that they needed a part for the refrigerator. I asked how long that was gonna take and they said that it may be a couple of days or a week. They got the part and put it in, but it was still not working. I asked what we were to do next and the tech said that they had to order a part.
A couple of days later, he put the part on and the refrigerator was not working. I asked what we were to do then and he said that they gotta replace it. It took them a minute to understand the issues with it, but the service and the support from American Home Shield have been there. I’ve been patient along the way because it's the process. The technicians have to do their due diligence before they can move forward.

The shower was leaking. I called American Home Shield and Air Pro Master came out and they fixed it, but there was something else also that they fixed at that point. When they fixed it, there was still something else that was leaking, so they had to come back and fix something else that was also leaking. Two different things were causing the leak and they fixed them both. Air Pro Master is great and I like them. The people American Home Shield uses are always very nice. If they charge too much, they have too much of a deductible. They don’t cover enough things, but they use a great staff. I call them every time and then they schedule. Air Pro Master calls me and they schedule the repair with my tenant and go out and do the repairs. My tenants are also very happy with Air Pro Master.
The American Home Shield reps are always nice to me. Sometimes, they do it with a recording and not a live person. They just do the recording and they ask me what’s wrong, and I will say "air conditioner" or "faucet broke in master bath". Sometimes, it’s a live person. I’m very happy when they come out and do stuff and they come out promptly. The quality of work that they've done has been perfect so far and everything's going great. I also have my kids use American Home Shield.

One of my neighbors a couple streets back suggested American Home Shield so I got the information and looked at it. I’ve been with them since April and I submitted my claim online. The contractor, Multiple Services, found the part, brought it up here and put it in. The rep showed me the old part which was pretty badly burned and also showed me what happened. The AC is now going good. Everything went fantastic with AHS, the job got done and I’m happy.
Thanks for your feedback Chester. We are happy to know that you a/c issue is resolved. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

When I went online to pick a home warranty, my son-in-law had used American Home Shield and was pleased with them, so I figured that if it was good for him, it would be good for me as well. We had just moved into the house and the upstairs air conditioning unit was not putting out enough cold air. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and my experience with everybody I've dealt with has been great. The contractor knew what he was talking about and he pointed out a couple of things and warned me about some other things to be aware of.
At the end of the day, he said that the temperature difference was fine. It is working okay now, although it hasn’t been as hot it was. So far, everything I've experienced has been great. I get the emails as far as the IDs and notifications, although I hope I don’t have to use them again. However, I'm not afraid that if I have to use them, AHS will do a good job of getting the right people. They were prompt in their response and communicated well in the limited dealing I've had with them. It was a positive experience.

Since my first call was in May 25th, I've had five visits from three different techs. Each time they came out, they played around with the unit and changed pipes. They did all kinds of little nitpicky stuff before they finally gave in and ordered my compressor which took about two weeks to come in. Now, the 4th is in. The guy called me at 9:00 last night to let me know that he was on his way. I didn’t want anybody coming to my house that time of night because I was about to go to sleep. Also, he has been working all day, this is a three-hour drive and he was not going to be able to give me results. It was good customer service though. He was ready to come out. He called me and let me know he was running and told me what problems he was encountering. There was constant communication and he kept me posted throughout the day. I told him to come out when he could.
Now, the time was from 2:00 to 6:00 but I know things happen and jobs take longer than expected. He then told me Saturday morning and I’m counting on him to come because I can’t keep waiting and waiting. My unit is still not working properly and it has not been a pleasant experience. Total Air Care can’t do anything and American Home Shield blames Total Air Care. I was told that it’s a piece together type of situation until there’s absolutely nothing else that can be done. I wish I had a better experience but I’ve been going through this since May. Nevertheless, the people that I have spoken with have been very professional and sensitive to my needs. I never felt like I was just a number and they really listened to what I had to say. Customer relations would be a plus but it doesn’t cool the house.

The dishwasher would never shut off and I had three different guys come out. When the first guy came, I think we gave him the wrong information so he fixed the wrong thing. When he left, the dishwasher was still doing the same thing. Then we had to have someone come back and the dishwasher was fixed on the third visit. We were just having a communication problem. But all of the three guys were very nice and friendly, and we’re happy with everything they all did. I had called and filed the claim, which was an easy way to do it. But sometimes American Home Shield has trouble getting repair people to work for them so we struggle with that sometimes. But for the most part, I like them. I've told several people the warranty is great and that they need to get it. I'm a Realtor and I constantly try to sell the product to my sellers and to my buyers.

When we were in Texas, my daughter went to check my house and she told me that the temperature was 90 degrees. She then opened the doors so it wouldn't get too hot being locked up. When I got home, I went around and checked. The fan wasn't running so I thought the AC's capacitor was out and so was the fan. I then called AHS.
The first people they assigned to me said it would be two weeks before they could get here. I just brought my wife home so I couldn’t handle that. I called AHS back and they were Johnny-on-the-spot. They had me list two other contractors and told me to call them. They also said that I could always cancel the other appointment. I would have to see if I could get them here quicker. The contractor over at the Panama City Beach was here the next afternoon and he replaced the fan and the capacitor as they were both bad. I was with him the whole time and I didn't think he checked the pressure. It was after he left when it started warming back up outside, and the AC wouldn't produce what we thought it had. And then, it quit again.
I called and they were here the next morning. What happened was, the drain pipe had stuffed up. There was a switch in there that if it gets too much water and it’s not disposing that, it shuts the unit down to protect it. They replaced that, explained to me what exactly was happening, and they even gave suggestions on how to keep it from happening in the future. They told me that every time I change the air filter, I should pour a couple of white vinegar in the drain line. That would keep that stuff from building up. Since the repair, everything has been very good. I'd tell friends to jump on AHS. It's worth it.

The reviews for American Home Shield were fairly positive. We have been with them since July and I've submitted my claims online. It has been really easy and usually, they'll send me a text and an email letting me know that my service request has been received. One of their contractors will be in touch with us and then schedule an appointment from there.
Stoa was great. They showed up on time and they resolved the problem with our dumpsters and bathroom leak. A phantom flush occurred in one of our other toilets when the plumber was here and he offered to try if he could figure out what the issue was. That issue isn't resolved yet but that isn't also in the scope of their work. They were very helpful and the plumber was good.
We also had to put in a service request for our HVAC unit. And for that one, the first time it wasn't resolved. Still, it was very easy for me to request and have them come back out and fix it. When I log in to my account, I can do all the service request and then it will show past service requests. Then I can go and be like, "The problem still exists. We need someone to come back out." And then when they text me and let me know that the contractor who's going to be fixing it has been contacted, they provide me with a telephone number. So if the contractor doesn't reach out to me within 24 hours, I can call them myself. We've had a pretty good experience with American Home Shield so far.

Submitting an online claim with American Home Shield for our air conditioning at a home down the road was easy. The contractor that came out was A1 Heating and Cooling and they did a good job. Since the repair of the AC, its performance has been good. However, there was a contractor from GSSN Heating and Air Conditioning who tried to come to our house and we were told that the person is a pedophile. GSSN also does a terrible job. AHS should check into people’s backgrounds of those going into people’s homes because that’s not kosher. But other than that, I love AHS and I would not ever have a house and not have a home warranty.

We had an electrical problem with the garage opener right after the storm and the garage wouldn’t open at all. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield through the internet. Though the website isn't intuitive, it's pretty easy to navigate. The problem with the garage opener happened on Friday morning, but they didn’t contact me until Monday because they don’t work on the weekends. My car was stuck inside the garage. I called the insurance company and I was trying to get someone to get there on the weekends, but they couldn’t do that. I wished they had a service on the weekends instead of me waiting until Monday.
When the contractor showed up, it took him less than a minute to fix the issue. However, I have an alarm system that was hooked to my garage and it was an outside system where it gave me the capability of closing and opening from my phone via Bluetooth. He switched the wires where he fixed the garage, but he disconnected my wireless device hooked to the garage, so I called the alarm company. They showed up and they said that whoever fixed the garage did everything wrong. He put the wiring in a wrong position. I had to pay extra for the alarm company to come in and look at my issue. I also had an issue with American Home Shield with the air conditioning. It broke down around July on a Friday, but they didn’t send a technician until Monday. As a warranty, AHS has a great customer service, but they need to pick better and more professional technicians.

My refrigerator was not freezing so I filed claim online with American Home Shield. My interaction with their rep and the service were great. The technician was very pleasant and right on time. I thought he'd be able to fix it that day and he let me know that they had to order the part, and it would be about a week but it just took four days. The contractor called me and set up an appointment for that following Monday.
The technician showed up early, fixed the refrigerator and explained everything that was happening. He even explained how the refrigerator works because I told him what I was doing to try to keep it going. He showed me what to do because I was moving the gauges. All I had to do is smack the little board, the part that he needed to change. Once I tap it, the refrigerator will come on. So far, I'm very pleased with AHS. I've actually had them but it was years ago. I didn't figure I needed it when I purchased a new home. It has now been 12 years and I said I'd probably need it now.

The service fee, for each time someone comes out through AHS, even for something minor costs $75. Then when the guy comes out I had to pay $20 more because there was some extra things that he was doing that he said was not covered so the total of everything was about $100. I don’t know much about what's covered and what isn’t covered but I pay $75 for service fee, which I thought should cover everything.
I had some guy come out to do my garage which I also paid $75 and then I had to pay an extra $60 because I purchased a remote, which I know is not something that AHS covers. Then he also did something to my door and then I told him, “Whoa, I paid the $75 already. So why are you charging me?” He said, “Well, this is not covered as well.” They need to be more specific on what the fee was about. It was just a simple rekey. However, the contractor did a really good job with the garage. I’m happy about the service.

American Home Shield was part of a home purchase and the first time using it was very much a pain for the pool heater. There was a lack of communication and lack of ability to establish any type of understanding of where I was in the process or what was gonna happen. The work was done and completed, but I thought to myself that I would never buy the warranty again. There was a lot of confusion. They said that I owed money, but the contract said that it was already paid for. My realtor had to go back and forth with American Home Shield. We got it straightened up in the beginning, but when we had to do the pool heater and we worked with the gentleman there who had the case, he was not very kind and was very difficult to work with. Even the company that they dispatched, it was probably a busy time of the year for them, so I understood. However, there was no communication.
Then, I recently had an attic fan go out. It can't be that much for that, but I put in the claim anyway. I did everything online and didn’t talk to a human being at all. It was very simple to schedule. There was a very tight integration in all the communication. The service tech came out and the company did the work. It was very well done and it was totally two different experiences. I can't even tell how bad the first one was. The guy came out and he was a nice guy. I asked that company another question and after that, they never followed up, but the work was done and that’s what they get paid for.
However, it was a very awkward and frustrating process. I would have just paid for it out of my pocket and get it done with, and when I got the estimate, it was $550. But with American Home Shield, it was $100, I did it online, and it was a refreshing experience. There were two different experiences and I can't take the human out of it.

I recently had an electrical claim with the outside outlet not working and the breaker wasn’t tripping correctly. It was easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield online. I went to their webpage, logged in and submitted the claim. I did it twice and the first time took an hour. The second time I did it, they needed three hours for the other group to call me to set up an appointment. The contractors came out the day after that for both times. American Home Shield sent out fantastic people who knocked it out and explained everything. The contractor stacked up his whole day with stuff and he still took plenty of time to explain things. When he left, I realized the refrigerator was out. So, I called and he immediately came back. He figured out what the real problem was immediately when he came back.
Everything’s perfect now and I’ve been using the outlet. The quality of the contractors who have gotten both times are the contractors on my call. I wanna try getting them to do some additional work but not under the warranty. And it helps me find new contractors for other stuff that’s not under the warranty. AHS does a great job. You send the claim in, the contractors come out and they take care of it. It’s quality work and you don’t have to worry about it again.

I am very displeased with this company. I reported the same problem with air conditioner for almost a year. They assigned to a company who advises in phone calls they do not work for AHS anymore. I view this continued assignment to a dummy company as the start of delaying and cost avoidance, which are the two primary goals of this operation.
After hours on hold to try and get acknowledgement of the service I pay for monthly, they assign to a company with skilled techs who are required to check in with them at every step of the process. Then, halfway through fixing the unit (record high temps here) AHS cancels that company's work orders, and refers me back to the company who says they won't work with AHS any longer. Then after hours on hold trying to fix that, they refer to a company who walks in and says those units are no good, you have to replace it with mini-splits, at a cost of $20,000 -- and he is pushing for a commitment.
Finally, I got approval - again after hours on hold - to have the first company back, and they are only covering about 2/3 of the cost, based on a clause in the contract that applies to refrigerators, not HVAC. I'll be filing complaints with BBB and our state Attorney General's office for consumer affairs, and considering a small claims action to recover the cost they refused to pay. Avoid these guys. Their market is real estate agents, who use this to sell clients as protection for their new home. It isn't worth the paper it is written on. Do not allow a contract with them on the purchase of your new home - find another company.
Good afternoon David

I have tried to like this company because a friend of mine recommended it, but it is terrible. After our most recent experience we will likely be suing them. We live in the fastest growing city in US, but yet their first response is "we have no one in your area." Then we call to get the claim "expedited," stay on hold for an hour or more and a week later get someone out. Sometimes the companies are good, mostly they are not. This last claim the company sent out a repair person who told AHS a repair was covered and then AHS made them send out a second technician who said it wasn't covered as per his instructions from his boss, AHS is their biggest customer. Find another company and make sure whoever you go with they guarantee that they have plenty of service providers in your area.

He explained what he was doing. He checked how much power was being put out by the AC unit, deep cleaned the unit and checked the filters. He also told me where things should be and why something can happen.
I asked him a couple of random questions about my unit and he was able to explain how my unit was, how it compared to other units and what I might consider in the future if I would be replacing it. He said that the service was guaranteed for 60 days, which gave me some comfort. It seemed like an easy fix and I was worried the AC was not gonna work again once he left. But that wasn’t the case. The AC has been cooling just fine. I also appreciated that people overly communicated. I had gotten communication by email from the contractor and then moments later I also got one from American Home Shield. I live in Houston, Texas so imagine how hot our house gets. I submitted the claim online and then, I was told that someone was gonna come out. I tried to expedite it because we had kids in the house so they canceled the first claim and then resubmitted another claim to get someone out faster.
It was about to rain that day and the contractor's appointment was between 8:00 and 12:00. He called and told me that he was trying to rush to get out before the rain hit and he made it. I described to him the problem and he knew right offhand what the problem was. Not only did he fix the problem, he gave me solutions and some things to do to prevent the problem from happening again. As soon as he finished everything, it started raining so he had it timed just right. It was wonderful. I thought there was gonna be more to the process but it was quite easy. I wasn’t aware that rekeying was covered by AHS but I was sent an email that had talked about that. I had planned on doing that because I had recently moved into the house. I set up an appointment on the AHS website, paid the initial fee, the service fee and was told that I would be contacted within 24 hours to set up the time for the rekeying to be performed.
The next day I was called by the worker himself asking if I was available at that time. I was so he came over and he was very friendly. He performed the work quickly and efficiently. I was very well-pleased because he knew what he was doing and was able to move some locks around. All the locks in my house were from different manufacturers. He was able to make some of the outside locks to have the same key to kind of match up the locks in certain doors to make it easier for me. I was also happy with the service being done the next day after I put in the claim.
I requested a plumber about a month later and the plumber came out the next day after putting I put in the claim as well. AHS had me pay the $75 service fee per visit upfront. My hot water pressure was not working sufficiently. It was very low and I didn’t know what exactly that I had to deal with. I figured it was the tank, but the plumber looked over the tank and couldn’t really tell what was going on. He turned the water off and tried to see if it was still running, but besides that, he just kind of looked at it over.
He told me that I would need to drain the tank and fill it back up to see if that would do anything because sometimes, there would be some buildup at the bottom of the tank that needs to get flushed out every once in a while. He had me do that on my own. I did that the next day, and when I was doing that, I figured out that the valve at the top of the tank was not working correctly so I ended up replacing that valve. Because the plumber hadn't really done much when he came out, I wasn’t very happy with his service.
It almost seemed like he was trying to get out of there pretty quickly. I also don’t know if they would've covered that valve on the water heater. He had said that they might not cover a water pressure issue if it wasn’t the appliance so that was another reason I didn’t go back through them. I knew a plumber who was able to replace that valve for me pretty cheaply and so rather than going back to American Home Shield and try to get another plumber out, I used a friend of mine. Otherwise, I'm happy with AHS.

Our upstairs AC was not working, so we called the service provider out. They came and initially told us that it needed to be replaced. We told them that we weren't replacing it for the price that they offered. We just wanted it repaired because something goes wrong with this AC every few years. We figured it was the Freon, so they ended up charging it with Freon. The AC worked for three days before it clunked out again. So we called American Home Shield back and the contractor came back out. But the AC would only keep working for three days and then it would break again. So they would come out and fix it again. Then it would break again.
While this was going on, I have kids in the home. It was also during some of the hottest days that we've had in the state. It was over 100 degrees when they came to the house every day to service it. It became time-consuming because I took a lot of time off from work to be available for the appointments. Despite having come out at least 4 times, they still weren't able to truly fix it. But because I went through American Home Shield, I had to go back through the same contractor that they sent out originally, which was my complaint.
I pay for my policy with American Home Shield every month as I have a contract with them. I called in to submit that claim. The first appointment was fine as it always is due to the time of year when everyone’s AC seems to break, not just mine. So I feel like it was timely to get the warranty set up. The reps have been very courteous and professional. However, it was back and forth and a lot of revisits with the contractor. At first, I felt like they were trying to get me to buy two new units. But the unit has been serviced before and the problem was probably the Freon or some leaks somewhere. Eventually, that was what it was, a leak. So, they replaced the indoor piece, which was the handler. I kept telling them that we were not paying that type of money, and they finally fixed it. The AC is working fine now, but it shouldn’t have taken over a month of repeated appointments to get it fixed.
Throughout the whole ordeal with American Home Shield, the only thing I didn’t understand was why they kept sending the same company out. Pretty much the only thing I paid was my service fee and I had to pay for the Freon. We ended up getting a new unit because the contractor said there was nothing that they could do. So it was way more money than what we expected to pay but we were at the mercy of what they tell us.
Nevertheless, I really don’t think American Home Shield was the problem. I'm a property manager and I always tell people to get a package on their house like American Home Shield. The warranty saves the homeowner and the tenant a lot of headaches because American Home Shield sends out licensed and certified technicians to homes. Normally, the scheduling is not like this situation that I went through. So hopefully, it was just this one-time thing with this contractor.
I have American Home Shield on all of my properties and they're typically pretty good. When something’s wrong, I get that for them to spend less money, they will try to repair it as much as they can. But part of their slogan is, “If it can't be fixed, we'll replace it.” I don’t see where the replacement ever happens as they will try to patch it until it can't be duct-taped anymore. That needs to be better because I've paid money into them for years, so if I need something new, I would expect to get something new.

A lot of the stuff around the house got some age on them and it’s a good thing we have the warranty on them. The air conditioning wasn’t working upstairs, but it was fixed. The bigger problem we have with the warranty right now is we have no hot water in one of the bathrooms since we moved in. We had it for about a week or so and we’ve had the plumber come out, but it still isn’t working.
Whatever the plumber did, we were never able to turn on the water for the bathtub or the shower or the sink and that hot water. It was a self-contained hot water tank. The electrician came out, did something, and left, and there is still no hot water. He didn’t check it before he left. He came back out because we said it was still not working. He said that the plumber didn’t change the two elements and that's what the problem is. He also changed out a breaker for us at the same time. It seems that what they’re doing is they’re troubleshooting.
The plumber is coming out today and if he changes out the two elements and we have hot water, then we'll know the electrician was correct and that is where the issue is. We’ve had about two weeks going back and forth. The contractors have been great as far as showing up when they are supposed to, but as far as fixing the problem on the one issue, I’m not really thrilled. We had to reschedule and then make sure that somebody is there. We got a four-hour window.
Nonetheless, the contractors have been nice guys. The American Home Shield concept is great and it’s definitely for an older home like ours. It definitely is a must because and we are at that point of replacing our air conditioning. We know the former owners as well, and he comes out every once in a while and tinkers with it and keeps it running for us.

I had American Home Shield back in 2000 until I left that house. I then went into renting and the renters didn’t want to have American Home Shield for whatever reason. It wasn’t my house so I didn’t have a choice. You go with what he goes. He was always getting his little side men working, putting things up and fixing and they were just awful. I tried telling him about AHS and signing AHS up to the house but he never did. As soon as I got here, I had Republic and they were awful and stupid. They messed the air conditioning up and I had to pay over $2000 for a new one. I wasn’t happy with them and I decided to switch back to my good old American Home Shield.
When we turned the air conditioner on but the house wasn’t cooling and it was just warm air coming out, I called American Home Shield and they sent Placer Heating & Air over. It took about a couple of days for them to come out. The contractors, Mike and Ernie, were knowledgeable, nice and educational. I paid $850 for them coming out. They told me what was happening and they offered a maintenance plan on what they were doing so I wouldn't have to pay so much next time if the same problem occurred. They told me to check and call them within 30 days if there was a leak, and now since I'm covered and I have the maintenance plan, they can come out and fix the air conditioner and I won't get charged anymore.

The contractor told me that my AC unit needed to be off for a minimum of three hours which I didn’t know and I was irritated because it was 100 degrees and I've been waiting for them for about a week to come. I asked if he could come back after I needed to shift because that would have been enough time. He said I had to call back in to make an appointment and he could probably come first thing in the morning. I called them right after he left and they scheduled the appointment for the next Thursday and it was already Friday when this happened. We've been waiting for a week and temperatures were like 103 degrees and my house was like 99 degrees. So I was frustrated and I tried to escalate it with Clear South Placer Heating and Air.
They told me that they would escalate it, they would put me on hold and hang up. They did that to me five times. So, I was very frustrated with them. I called back American Home Shield and told them the situation. They escalated it for me and gave me approval to find my own air conditioning service. They called me back when they said they would and they listened to my situation. American Home Shield was great but Clear South was horrible.

I’ve had somebody out before with American Home Shield and I’ve always been satisfied with AHS. I had to rebut the house because there were issues. There were five recessed lights in the kitchen that kept coming on and off and a guy come out and checked it. He couldn’t find anything wrong except for just one. Then, the alarm system started beeping and the socket that it was plugged in went mad. After that one went out, the one in my bathroom, two of my grandkids' bathroom, and one outside went out and were not working one socket at a time.
The guy came out and three of the sockets had the top working and the bottom wouldn't. He replaced three sockets including the one outside, the one in my bathroom, and the one in the laundry room. But the garbage disposal wasn't working and it was plugged into the same socket with the dishwasher which was working. It was weird. He went outside to the electrical box and came back in and the dishwasher worked. He told me if there were any more issues with the dishwasher not working, I need to have someone come out and check the appliance.

We've been using American Home Shield for the last seven years. For the most part, our experience with them has been good, but sometimes there are things they don’t wanna pay for. They're competitively priced and all the warranty companies across the board continued to be about the same so we just stuck with American Home Shield. When the fan on the AC's outside unit had gone out, my wife submitted the claim. The AC was fixed the day the contractor came. American Home Shield's contractors have always been very professional and courteous. They’re generally on time and get things done as quickly as they can.

I'm a real-estate broker and I always recommend American Home Shield to all my customers. Now that I'm retired, we have three properties and all of 'em are covered by them. We had two plumbing claims and they responded right away. We didn't have to wait. Most recently, the water heater stopped working totally, so the techs came out and assessed it. There was water on the basement floor and they fixed it. When we moved in a week later, the sump pump stopped working. The techs were very punctual and professional. Since we were in the process of moving, they got the job done in a couple of days. And because we turned the water off, they were very punctual getting it done. We're always very happy with AHS, and I know my customers have always been very happy with the product too.

My AC wasn’t cooling and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. Everything was handled perfectly by the reps and they were very prompt with the claim. However, I thought they were gonna reach out to local vendors first, but that wasn’t the case in the first instance. The first company wasn’t able to come out the following week, which was not gonna work because it was very hot outside. I called American Home Shield back and spoke with a rep on a Saturday. A portion of most businesses was closed, so I asked them to locate me a local vendor that will be able to come out as soon as possible next business day, which they weren’t able to do. I received a contact information from that vendor once they scheduled it and I spoke with the company.
However, they told me that they weren’t gonna be able to do it because they weren’t gonna be able to get someone right away. It was scheduled again for another company that came out and took care of the situation. During the first visit, the tech replaced some coil, but that didn’t fix the problem, so I called back and the technician came out the following day. The issue ended up being our motor fan for the AC was overheating. Everything’s working fine now. I would recommend American Home Shield and it’s a great thing to be a part of. It's also good having to pay only $75 out of pocket versus what a call like that would have cost me. And to join it and to have it for a year, the one-time fee is just the one cost of something if something breaks.

At 10:00 at night, I realized that I had water in my bedroom and it backed up to a shed outside where the hot water heater is. I went out there and the hot water heater was gone. I turned off the gas and the water after a while, and then I called American Home Shield. Unfortunately, that night the system was down, but they got my call and called the next morning. We set up an appointment and Hero Plumbing came. The subcontractor told me what had to be done, they did it and I was totally pleased. I found out that the hot water heater was the original from the late 80's, so it had to be brought up to code. They did all that and I had the inspector come. Now, I'm just getting quotes to get my carpet done. American Home Shield is a great thing to have because it definitely protects you.

I would submit claims with American Home Shield for my mom online, and when the AC stopped cooling and eventually stopped working, the contractor came out four times and they couldn’t get it corrected. The last person that came out apparently was like a master AC person according to what AHS had told me on the phone. He gave me a call and at the end of the day, we were still not satisfied. He then started saying that the issue is the house structure and it’s all related to the house itself. I told him that I understood him, but the AC was working before and it's broken now. So if he fixed it and it still was not cooling at the same level, I couldn't understand where the house structure had to do with anything. The contractor said that it was the most that they can do for the unit.
My mom had to relocate and this house is where she wants to be. When we bought the house, the AC was less than four years old, so it's a new unit. I know the problem was not the unit, it’s something else, and for me, the contractor is not doing things right. The bedrooms are still cooling okay. It’s just the front of the house, the kitchen, the living room and the dining room are not at all at the same temperature as it was before the AC broke.
At this point, I haven’t called again, however, I still feel the AC is not cooling well enough. My mom is an elderly person and she doesn't want those people to come back as they just say things that upset her. So we have dedicated ourselves to put ceiling fans in the house and units on the ground, and she’s been happy with that right now especially since the bedrooms are decently cool. Although I'm not satisfied with the situation that just happened, I will recommend AHS to others because we had another issue in the house before and the contractor was awesome about it. It was her stove that was not working correctly and they came and got it fixed.

When water was coming into my basement, which went undetected until I moved in, American Home Shield told me that it was not covered. However, when I was reading the list of things that they cover, it looked like if there were things that were not identified during an inspection, they would cover them. That would be the other things that specific items covered. The way they state that items identified after inspection would be covered is a little bit misleading. But when the fan on my furnace went out and I called them and asked for service, they did a very good job and were very helpful. They assigned a guy and when that guy came, he said that the fan unit itself would cost about $300 and that the furnace was very old. And it was. It was 26 years old. He then suggested to replace the furnace and the fan and I did. Since then, there has been no problems. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I'm paying for an insurance and that should have been covered, but they told me that secondary damage caused by the appliance is not American Home Shield's responsibility and I guess if an AC goes out though, that's a big expense that would be covered. Even so, they took care of the problem the same day. The contractors were very helpful. I will use them from now on if I can.

I have two accounts with American Home Shield. One is for my rental property and one for my primary home. It was easy to do the claim online but if there was something particular that I would need for them to do, I would call it in. I like J & B Retail Construction, the contractor that they sent out for my washer and dryer. They did the work with no discrepancy. But the company they sent before J & B refused to do the washer because it was a stackable washer and dryer. They charged me for that service call even though they didn’t do any service, so I had to put in another order for J & B to come out.
One time I had a claim for a refrigerator and the contractor that came was good but AHS didn’t notify me when a part had to be ordered. They were saying that they didn’t have the part for my refrigerator because I had a Samsung refrigerator. I was without a refrigerator for almost a month and I had to call AHS to find out what was going on. That’s not right. They got my money but then they couldn’t communicate with me. AHS has my email address and phone number, so there should not be any reason why they cannot get in touch with me and it's making me contemplate on leaving them. Also for years on, I have not had to use their service but they gave me a price increase. However, other than those problems, I hadn’t had anything else and I would recommend them.

I filed that claim over the phone and it was easy. Sears came to our home and they were pretty efficient. It took me three weeks to get my new stove. However, I was dissatisfied with the appliance repair guy that American Home Shield hired to do the installation. All he did was plug it in and pushed it back into the spot. He didn't put a level on, or anything. I thought he should go a bit more or at least check the level.
The new stove is working great, but the panel cover was broken three times. When they got here, the cover was cracked, so another one was ordered. But it came in broken, so we ordered a second one. Still, it came in broken. Then we finally got a good one and got it fixed today. Now we've got our complete stove and we're pretty pleased about that. They then sent a plumber out and the guy did some work. However, we started smelling old water again a month later. We had to call American Home Shield again and they sent out a plumber. Called AHS who sent Proven Professional Construction Services LLC contractor. He diagnosed problem as "Result of Excessive Force" and AHS declined to cover. This guy walks in my house and looks at my pipes and then leaves like he is going to grab a part from the Home Depot. He texts me and says he is on the phone with AHS and that they will not cover my repair because they said my pipes are under a recall. The plumber told them that my pipes are under a recall. I did some research and my pipes are not under a recall but they are under investigation as to the quality of the product. I understand in their contract it says they do not do repair work on product recalls but my pipes are not under a recall...
I have the NIBCO DuraPEx piping in my house. I feel like this plumbing company and AHS are working together to screw people out of their hard earned $$$$. I did call 3 other plumbers in the area where I live and they said they have not heard of any recalls on this pipe either. Needless to say K&S plumbing have really bad reviews. Last year my air conditioner went out. The company AHS sent out a tech who put in the wrong condenser (7 days in sweltering heat and no air!!!). Last week the air went out (about the same time as last year and in triple digit heat and high humidity. They charged me the $75 service visit, the air guy came out two days later (on a Thursday) and said he would be back Monday. I called them on Monday because I had not heard anything and they were just then calling the manufacturer for the part. Now, they had come out Thursday at 11 am. Why did they not call then? Or even Friday, or on Saturday (which they are open on)? I called AHS their computer was down and they promised to call me back. 4 hours later, I called them, and got a nut who could not speak English, and was sarcastic and kept calling me the wrong name and talking about the wrong issue.
I finally got her on track and she gave me the run around. She did offer to charge me another $75 to get another tech out there to look at the unit! What was in her pipe? AHS should have called another tech and did a stop payment on the original. But, no, she just told me I had to wait. I tried to get a supervisor on the phone. Either they do not have any or they have too many problems that a supervisor has to take over the calls on. I called back an hour later and they called the vendor who had just ordered the part. Geez! After leaving over 4 messages for the vendor they ordered the part.
Now they say the part will be in within 3 - 5 business days. That puts us at Friday for the part to come in, at the latest, supposedly. Do you think they will make it out Saturday? I highly doubt it. In high humidity and temps, is this not why we purchase a warranty company. I called 3 Air conditioning companies and they could get the part faster but then I would be out about $700. I asked AHS to reimburse me and they said no. What good are they if they do not have quality service techs and just tell you to kiss off when there is a problem?

It has been 3 weeks now. My washing machine is broken. Trying to use the home warranty by them to get it fixed. That's what it's for after all. The technician they sent has bad reviews himself on Google (2 stars is about as bad as it gets) so no wonder he can't fix it. He closed my ticket while the unit is still broken. He said it needed a motor, but just closed the ticket. NOT FIXED. And he never told us he wasn't coming back out. I've spent almost $200 now at the laundry mat. You can't complain or get American Home Shield to help because they have NO email, NO one will answer the phone. Multiple multiple calls of over 30 min on hold on 2 different customer service numbers and no human EVER answers. I did get someone to communicate on Messenger, but not to the last 4 messages requesting additional help. So someone sees those, they just choose not to do anything which is even worse.
I have now joined a class action against them, and will be finding another warranty company. I will have to pay for the washer repair out of pocket when I switch. Which stinks. Just don't buy a warranty with them. They are a rip off SCAM company. They just want your monthly premium but they will not talk to you or help you. They should be shut down.
Updated on 08/06/2018: I have had huge headaches with AHS. Do not get a "warranty" from them. If you look on BBB, Angie's List and just Google reviews you'll see nothing but problems and the word SCAM a lot describing them. They refused to finish repairs on my washing machine. I got a VM from someone in their Social Media dept saying so, but not why. And certainly not what their contract claims "if it can't be fixed well replace it." That has never happened as far as I can see in any of their reviews. I wasted $500 on laundry bills & my own service person when theirs stopped coming out to fix my unit. I could have invested that in a new washer.
I have been trying over a week to get ANYONE to pick up the phone so I could cancel this garbage. Well finally got their "retention dept" today thru the phone no on my online bank acct. She said she would cancel the contract but I'd have to pay this months (I will NOT, reporting to my bank who will indeed cover me after I send them my phone logs of being on hold and all the messages unanswered on messenger - they don't have an email address) There is NOWHERE on the website to cancel - adding to the multiple other people calling the company a scam. It is. They want your premium without providing any service.
Just run. There is NOTHING legitimate about them. I have already reviewed here & BBB but now I am turning over to Attorney General consumer protection division. Mine is NC. Every state has one. I have had luck with them with a car warranty co. They really go after fraud like this. I encourage all of you who have had issues (I sure see many complaints on all these sites) to do so so we can shut this fraud down. It's ridiculous to say the least. On my last review, you see they responded until I asked the hard questions - then no comment. As well as someone writing me an email from their Social media - no reply at all to my questions or concerns. But most of all they didn't repair or replace my appliance as their contract states.
Good afternoon Nikki,
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your washer machine repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Ok, started over after 15 days then, nothing, I called so many times, experiencing 30-45 min hold times and no one seems to have the previous notes and had to transfer me to authorization, 20 more minutes or so and they would say it has been authorized, same story at around 30 days, I'd call over and over for a status and no answer, then, one day, they said one of the parts had a delay, I'd ask for a ETA and no one knows.
Then, I called again and they offered me to settle on $440 on a $2K refrigerator. They would not replace because my refrigerator is repairable, no supervisor or manager to escalate my call or take ownership. First, I do not like writing a negative review about any company but this has to be one of the worst companies I have ever experienced. When I purchased the home I thought it would be prudent to purchase a home warranty just in case. Before deciding what company to go with, I wanted to narrow down the many choices.
I contacted AHS and asked what would they replace my fixtures/appliances like for like and I was assured they would, to further illustrate what I meant I explained that I had an 80 gallon stainless water heater installed would they replace the heater if necessary with an 80 gallon stainless heater and I was assured they would. They did explain if anything needed to be brought up to code there would be an added cost because that was a non covered expense. Within a year my A/C system started to fail, I contacted AHS and after sitting on hold for over 2 hours I was told a company would contact me. Integrity Air contacted me back and scheduled an appointment within 3 days, I was given a 5 hour window when they would show (they showed up 7 hours later). The air conditioning was misdiagnosed and the temperature in the home reached 97 degrees.
I called the company back and was given another appointment 2 days later. The company arrived back on a Friday and found the A/C coil had froze. In order to do a diagnosis they would need to come back the following week (Tuesday). I called AHS and explained the urgency and asked for another company to come out (this took almost 4 hours). AHS explained they would have to charge me another $150 diagnostic fee. I explained it is the same issue I had last week and had already paid the $150, I finally agreed and I was scheduled for Tuesday. The company had to perform a DYE test and fill the unit with Freon at $89.00 per LB. AHS paid $10.00 per LB. I covered the remaining.
Today marks 3 weeks & 4 days with no A/C. By the way I am on hold with AHS going on 2 hrs & 36 minutes. I contacted the new A/C company hired by AHS and they stated they have submitted paperwork 3 times to AHS and are still waiting to have a representative from AHS contact me. The new A/C company stated they will need to wait for AHS to ship them parts before they can schedule my repair and I will have an out of pocket cost of $1000.00. This company intentionally tries to frustrate you, the hidden fees will cost you more, every contractor I have spoken with tells horror stories about this company. Just One Call was sent to my home through our home warranty company, American Home Shield. The tech knew enough to get by, but should not have this job. He was very unprofessional, blaming the inadequacy of the 30 year old AC unit on me. He told me a part was broken, so he used a zip tie. I ask if that was temporary while he fixed other things... Nope! Told me it would last a lifetime. (He used them several locations) He kept receiving personal calls while working on our unit.
When he had the unit back together and running, I kept asking about the horrible noise it was now making. Was told it was fine, it would stop. He continued to complain and question me about previous AC techs. Told me he was better, but wouldn't answer any of our questions. The final straw was he kept insisting I use a check. I didn't have a check to use, but he wanted me to find a way. A week later, the AC is broken again. The awful noise he created never went away. Unfortunately, American Home Shield will only send out the same vendor for repair. I tried to tell them how uncomfortable he made me, and how unprofessional he was. I told her I do not want this company working in my home again. American Home Shield will not stand by its customer no matter how uncomfortable I feel by this vendor. I am extremely disappointed in American Home Shield.

My washing machine wasn’t cycling all the way through so I filed a claim online and made an appointment. The website was easy to use and I like it. The contractor came out on time as was scheduled. He was really good and he performed the repair. Then I paid the service fee that was associated with it. But when I made arrangements to make the payment, it came out of my monthly payment card and that was not the card that I put in for to come out. Other than that, everything went well. But I prefer to be able to call and talk to somebody. It's a lot easier that way. Although I could do online, I don't like it.

My AC unit wasn’t working that well. We would put it on 76 and it wouldn’t go below 79 downstairs. We decided to call American Home Shield and have some people come out to fix it. The company came out after a week. The guy said that my AC had leaks and he didn’t have the right tool to fix it. He was gonna add pounds of refrigerant and then I would be all set. He also told me that he will be back in a couple of days. So he came back and said that he didn't have the tools. He changed the wall mount for us which wasn’t necessary and said that he will be back the next day. When he came back, he put two pounds of Freon and then charged us $200 because AHS wouldn't cover the Freon. He then said that my AC would be blazing cold now and then he put it on 76. It was cold indeed.
The very next day, we left for Seattle for a week and we turned the temperature to 82 degrees because we weren’t living in the house. When we came back, we turned our AC down to 78 and it wouldn’t budge. It was 90 degrees. We called American Home Shield again and they sent out another company which came a week later. Their technician said the first company messed it up. The Freon leaked out, it was empty and there was nothing in there. This tech wanted to make sure that there were leaks but he didn’t know where it was coming from and so he pumped it full of nitrogen to see where the leaks were. He then asked me to call American Home Shield and request a redo from the original company.
We called AHS and they called the original company. By this time, it was 114 degrees out. The guy from the original company asked what I was talking about. He insisted it was full and there was Freon in there. I told him that there was none and the AC doesn't work. I also added that another company came out and pumped it full of nitrogen to see where the leaks were. Again, he said that he didn't have the right tools to fix the job and that his office will call me. He then left. We tried to call his company, Ice Cube Air but they wouldn't answer their phone. We then called American Home Shield and they told me they couldn't do anything until Ice Cube Air has sent the paperwork to them and that could take up to 48 hours. Given the excessive heat warnings, we had to rent a hotel for a whole week because we weren't gonna live in the house with no AC. I have a two-year-old.
Ice Cube Air finally submitted the paperwork and AHS would charge us 800 bucks to fill it completely full of refrigerant. This got me angry because it doesn't make any sense. In fact, AHS made it worse and then, they decided that Ice Cube Air was gonna do it and take care of it because they messed up. However, they couldn't come back for another week.
While the AC has already been fixed, I'm very dissatisfied with my experience. American Home Shield wouldn’t do anything for me except that they would give me an AC unit for my window but they will only pay $75 for one. I went to Home Depot and ACs were 300 bucks. American Home Shield is in charge and they’re the boss. Although it's not much of their problem as it was with Ice Cube Air, they hired these people and these people dropped the ball. Furthermore, AHS reps weren't accommodating. Every time I would talk to somebody different, nobody really cared and I was just another customer.
Other people had great experiences with AHS and I’m sure there has been thousands. It’s just the luck of the draw. If we got a good company to come out, then everything would’ve been fine and AHS would’ve been the savior. I wouldn’t have had to reach out to them multiple times but you get what you pay for. When you’re dealing with a home warranty company, you’re getting red-headed stepchild companies that come out like the foreigners. I’m dealing with a lot of small companies, and they didn’t speak English very well. It’s professional and that’s who you get when you have these companies come out for the warranties. We can’t look behind us and we’re gonna look forward.
Austin,

My air conditioning issue hasn't been fixed yet. The contractor came out three days after I submitted the claim online through American Home Shield. The technician came out and was here for about 20 minutes. He said he fixed the issue and it was working when he left and then an hour later, it quit. I contacted the AC company and told them that he had just been out an hour ago and then it quit again, that he had mentioned that the blower would probably go out but he didn’t replace it then which he should have. They told me that they couldn't work on my system again. They sent my information back to American Home Shield so that they could find another contractor to come out and work on my system.
Another contractor came out and he told me that the blower definitely went out and if they could find one, it would be pretty expensive and I already have a train unit outside that can be converted from the old furnace to use electric heat. He said it would be probably cheaper and a better idea to move over to that which would fix all issues for the future.

My AC was not pumping any air at all. Submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield online was easy and I got an acknowledgment within a few minutes. Then the local service provider called me the next morning and they were able to get their guy out two days later. It was less than 72 hours which at this time of year didn’t surprise me. I was a little disappointed that he took two days to get out but here in Las Vegas in the summer, I was lucky to get that. The gentleman came out towards the end of the time range that they gave me on the day but he was still within the time range. He did some work. He was outside. He was inside. And then, he went up into the attic and had to replace a fuse. He was working at our house within 30 minutes and he got the system working properly since.
I really appreciated American Home Shield's electronic updates. That helped a lot if only to keep me informed about what was happening with the claim and to show me that it had been checked on. I bought the house in January of 2008 and I had coverage through September 2017, then I let the AHS policy lapse. I just got careless on paying the payments. I signed back up in May of this year and I’ve just been back on a plan that is identical to the one I had before. It’s a better cost. It’s about $5 less a month and it’s a great deal and it’s cheaper long-term too. I don’t wanna lose American Home Shield again.

We are from Oregon, we moved to Oklahoma, and we bought a home. Our realtor recommended AHS and another company. Then I did a little online research and the reviews for American Home Shield were better than the ones for the other company. So, I went with them. But I did not realized at the time that there was gonna be a $75 co-pay every time I needed something done at my house.
I would also tell people to plan to file a claim online with AHS and still try to get hold of an actual person. When our air-conditioner went down on a Friday and we discovered it around 6:30 when we came home, we tried to call and there was an hour wait time with American Home Shield. So it was a 100 degrees outside, we were looking forward to a long weekend, and we weren't real happy about that. Then on their voicemail, it said you could do the claim online. So we tried to do that, but there was some confusion. When I first called for a different issue, they said that if you called for the same issue, you only have to pay the $75 once. And I thought that since I was gonna be calling at a plumber to work on the air-conditioner, it was the same $75. But it wasn't and I misunderstood all that.
So I ended up calling back and waiting on hold for an hour. Then, I told them my problem and about 45 minutes later, I got an email saying that their vendor tried to contact me and I didn't answer my phone, which was completely not true. So I called back again and I was on hold for over 45 minutes. And the lady that answered the phone said that what I got was the false email. She also said that everybody got it. At any rate, it was really frustrating to get through to them.
Then, I finally got an email early Saturday morning that said who our provider was supposed to be. I called them Saturday morning because I didn't know if they work on weekends and I wanted to know when they were gonna be calling me, and sure enough, they did. This plumbing company said that they were really busy and they were gonna call me on Monday. Monday came around and they called. I got a hold of an appointment schedule for the next day but they didn't even show up for. It's been four days now and I haven't heard from them yet.
Before that, I submitted a claim online with AHS for the disposal on the kitchen was leaking. The plumber called me within a couple of hours, they got something scheduled right away, and got it all done. That was great. Then, we had a claim for the air-conditioner and it took six days before someone came to my house. The guy was really rude and he got the air-conditioner working a little bit better but it still wasn't where it should be. So I ended up re-opening that claim. AHS sent another company who was pleasant and but he said that the air-conditioner is undersized for our home, which I understand is not something that a warranty company is going to cover. In fact, a gentleman called me the next day and he wanted to explain that to me.
I also had some work on the pool filter and the pool pump that needed to be taken care off. I submitted a claim online with AHS and the person that called, John, and his wife both came out to do the work. They were both very professional and friendly. They also answered a ton of questions that I had about the pool equipment. I haven't been impressed with the vendors at AHS except for these pool people.
Right now, I would love to talk to someone at American Home Shield and say that this plumber that I made a claim for about four days ago about didn’t call me. And I would love to tell AHS to get me a different vendor or call their vendor and tell them that they need to do what AHS are expecting him to do. American Home Shield sent me an email saying I'd have a contractor within 24-hours but that was not happening. I wanna tell them that so that they can take care of it. But I'm not gonna wait on hold forever.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for three weeks and when I called a couple of times, I was on hold for ages because there was an issue with my account. I had to go right around with my real estate agent and get the direct number of a salesperson there who was able to fix it and got it resolved in 10 days. We talked to the rep, I was able to log in and that has been paid for. She took care of it immediately and we got it all cleared up. I had some challenges on the phone so I submit claims on the computer instead where the process is not complicated.
For my first claim, American Home Shield sent A&R. The contractor knew what he was doing and communicated the entire time. He told us during the entire process everything he was gonna do and he was on time for a first-time fix. He called before he came, told me when he would be there and he kept calling and updating me to how far out he was. He was very professional and focused. He started from the ground floor and worked his way up into the attic and he resolved the issue on the first try of it. It was everything you’re looking for in a service and it was a complete pleasure to work with A&R.
We also put in a claim for a key service, that I put in a call a few weeks ago and they’re gonna be coming out this Sunday to do it. That was a little bit more challenging with the key company, getting us along. They called and when I called back, they told me that they didn’t have my information on file. Two days later, I got another call from somebody else and we got it set up.
I wish that I had a number where somebody would be more responsive and I can call in, ask for a question and they’d answer. I need to put in another service request for a washing machine but I wanna ask exactly what the process is if they can’t fix the washer. I want to know if it is going to be worth it having somebody come take a look at it or if I should just go buy a new one. I’m trying to figure that out because I looked on reviews of their washer in the house and everyone has got problems with it all across the board. I want to know if the $75 was worth the investment or if I should put it where I want it. I’m hesitant to call American Home Shield because I don’t wanna be on hold for half an hour waiting for an answer to my phone call.

Everything went smoothly in submitting the claim regarding the microwave that stopped heating up. The contractor AHS sent out was good and usually, everybody that they sent was really good. However, you pay the plumbers the $125 fee to come out and they will way overcharge the job. In the last six years, we have rental properties under AHS and I’ve never seen a plumber charge the correct amount. The renters in one of my rent houses had moved out and I was doing some remodeling before I rented it again. That was when the AC unit went out so I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and service it. They assigned me to Mr. Fixit in Lawton who should have called me within 24 hours but they never did. I called them and they told me that they were really busy and they would call before they could come. I asked when that would be and I was told in another 24 hours.
On the seventh day, I called AHS and I told them that nobody ever came. I called Mr. Fixit once and they never called me back. I had a guy coming to lay new tiling in the house and I couldn’t get him to come and work until I got some AC in there. I asked to be referred to someone and they said that there was nobody else to assign me to. I’m a realtor and I sell these warranties all day long. I know that Altus Air does some repairs for AHS so I asked why they couldn't send Altus Air. They said that Altus Air was not taking any calls.
I waited two more days and finally, I called my service rep Kelly. I told her that I’d been waiting 10 days and I was patient long enough. She was very nice and she apologized. She asked who I wanted to come to fix the AC and I said that the only one that I know that does it and gets on it pretty quick is Altus Air. It wasn’t 20 minutes until Altus Air called me. It was four or five in the evening and I was asked if I could wait until eight o’clock in the morning. Altus Air came the next morning before eight o’clock. A very nice young man called to tell me that he would be at the house in about five minutes. I had somebody to let him in and he fixed it. He was there for about 30 minutes and everything was good. I'm very dissatisfied on that one service call with Mr. Fixit. I waited 10 days to get service so I was a little pissed. That was the worst one I’ve ever had.

I didn't have any plugs or outlets working in the kitchen for a month and a half, and I had that same issue six months ago. The tech that came out found a loose wire underneath the house. I had a GFCI popped, so he reset it and everything worked. He then checked everything to make sure that it was a 20-amp breaker and not a 15 where it could overload every time we turn on the toaster. He was really thorough. It was an issue on my side, but he found it and that's all that matters.
I also had a plumbing issue the month before. We didn't have any hot water for three weeks, and I had a propane company come out and they troubleshot to find out. They went over the water heater, which on the new ones there are light flashes that can be held by the code. They said I had a bad valve and they bypassed it. I used the AHS warranty and they gave me Hers & His Plumbing. I called up the contractors and they said, "We can't make it until Thursday." Thursday came, and they called me and said they were having problems. They couldn't make it until the following Thursday. That's when I called AHS back, and they got me a local place out of Lawrenceburg and in two days, they had the hot water running. Overall the people at AHS are nice. They were really good at finding me a person both times. My daughter has been using them for 10 years and she's had 'em out for all kinds of different things. I'd recommend 'em.

Both AHS and the appliance company failed to get back to me and left both my tenants and me hanging with no action. It took a week for AHS to "approve" my air conditioning parts. That was crazy enough, but then it took another 3 weeks for the common parts to arrive. The parts (compressor and accumulator) were installed the in another day, but then the AC broke again because the pipes froze. Of course, that was on a weekend and the local HVAC company they hired does not work on the weekends. Waiting more than 3 weeks for parts is ridiculous. Having the AC break the very next day is also ridiculous. The people who answer the phones at AHS are nice and apologetic, but that does not cool the house. The local HVAC company has 2 star ratings even though it seemed like they did what they could. They can't install parts that they don't have.
When a customer has to wait 3 weeks for common parts, AHS should do everything possible to fix the problem. AHS ordered the parts and I kept getting promises of when they would arrive. Promises not kept. Seriously terrible. Waiting now for Monday to arrive to see if the local HVAC company will show up to fix the problem.

Our air conditioning unit went out, and we called American Home Shield and they couldn't get anybody out for three days. We ended up calling a regular HVAC person to come out, and the guy came but we were unsure if the unit was fixed. He said that the unit was on its way out, so we had to get somebody else out from the warranty company to see if they could look at it. We then called AHS. It was a very hot weekend and we had people coming over that day. AHS ended up finding a company that could come out that same day and look at the unit. The person who came and looked at the unit ran a bunch of tests and ended up recharging the unit and testing all the components. He deemed that it was functional. He put more Freon and charged it a lot more than what was covered, so we ended up paying additional. But when it's all said and done, he said that the unit is working good and it was producing decent cold air.
American Home Shield's representatives are always great. They're nice and friendly, but they can only do so much. After I speak with them, then it's up to trying to get a vendor to come out and facilitate the actual work. That's where the delays come to play because in the industry, especially for HVAC, people are to do a house to house. It's a dwindling business. Also, we had some problems with vendors, and AHS has a policy that the same vendor needs to come out three times before a new one can be selected. That happened with our dishwasher. They kept sending the same guy out but they finally sent somebody else out, and we ended up getting a new dishwasher because the dishwasher was broken. I would recommend AHS.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was related to my dryer. In terms of American Home Shield’s role, everything was seamless and they handled it the way I expected them to. I submitted the claim, as well as all of the claims that I’ve submitted, online through their claim system, but I haven’t been left feeling like I wish I could’ve spoken to someone. All of my experiences with the contractors have been great. In each case, the contractors came within the window that they provided. They addressed the issue really quickly and they made the repair fairly quickly, as well. All the contractors were polite and professional too.
For the plumbing jobs, they did a great job and when I checked it, it was clean. Everything that they did was what I expected and I haven’t had issues with it since. With the dryer, the technician explained the issue very clearly and he explained that he did everything that he could do to fix what could be causing the issue. The issue that I was experiencing was a shortcoming of my dryer than an actual malfunction, although there was a part that needed to be cleaned. But in each case, they communicated well the work that they left behind. It looked good from my perspective as a layman and I’ve been a satisfied customer. If my friends are going to purchase a home, I would certainly recommend American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield to have my downstairs air conditioning repaired. The company that they used, J-Tech Mechanical, was a really good supplier and everybody has been very professional. But they've been very unsuccessful to get my AC fixed. The first guy came to detect leaks and said that the cooling coil has weakened. So, they called me, put the order in, and told American Home Shield. Three days later, the cooling coil came in. The house is only five and a half years old and the guy said that I was out of warranty by a couple of days, so I ended up having to buy a new cooling coil and I paid them for it. Then, he put it in but about four days later, the AC was out again. The guy came out and said that the cooling coil was leaking, so he had to replace it again. But because I bought a new cooling coil, there was no charge for it. About a week later, the new cooling coil came in and he got it replaced,
But three days later, the AC was out again. He came back with two guys and they checked outside and inside. They recognized that there was a leak inside of the condenser unit on the outside unit and they contacted American Home Shield for its replacement, but I didn't hear anything for a while. About two weeks later, I got a call back from the contractors saying that the new condensing unit came in and that they wanted to schedule to come out and install it. I coordinated and scheduled times with them. Then a guy came out, took the old unit out, put the new unit in, and charged it up. It worked wonderfully. But three days later, it was hot again. So they have done a lot of work and somebody is coming to the house today to look at the unit again.
This is the fifth time that I've called about the same thing and as a customer, I have a bit more patience than others. Otherwise, I would be freaking out by now because it has been so many times. But American Home Shield has been very good and very responsive to my concerns. Every time I requested or talked to them, they have always been so understanding and patient. Barnett Air-conditioning was sent by AHS a few weeks ago when my AC had water dripping out of the emergency drain line. The contractor was good and our interaction was perfect. However, I don’t know if AHS is worth the time and the money sometimes. I have to submit a claim and I have to wait on them too long to get a contractor over. I also wait on the contractor and I pay to have it fixed. But it is pretty valuable to have the warranty for the AC.

The ground fall circuit that's in the garage and all the outdoor outlets wasn't functioning properly. I thought there was something wrong with either the circuit or one of the outlets so AHS sent out an electrician to take a look at it. The guy was named Sam and he was really good. He checked it all out and then he said, "What are you doing with it?" Why is it popping?" I told him I'm running a swamp cooler around my patio to keep the parts of the patio cool. He explained to me that kind of circuit and that kind of motor aren't compatible because it surges. It takes more electricity depending on the needs of the motor and that's why it trips it. But he checked all of the outlets and they're all functioning properly. He told me that the only thing that I could do was all of the outlets had to be ground fall and they all had to be wired a certain way. Other than that, I recommend AHS.

American Home Shield always has very satisfactory customer service when I call in a claim. They’ve very prompt. I have three air conditioners and there was an issue so they dispatch A-US Air Conditioning of Texas the next day. The contractor who came out was very good. He got right to it and found out what the problem was. There was some part that had gone out on the AC and he got it fixed in one day. He was very efficient. There has been no more issues since the repair and it’s perfect. I’ve had American Home Shield for seven years and they’ve always come through to fix whatever the problem is in the house. A drain was clogged and our water wouldn't go down. I contacted American Home Shield, and they had a plumber come out to fix it. He cleaned the pipes out, and then he put in something where the little downspout is. And then a couple of weeks later, we noticed the wet spot in our ceiling. We went upstairs and looked in the bathroom, and the new faucet thing that he put in, either wasn’t tight or it was poor quality, so it was dripping into the bathroom cabinet, and then that was dripping into the ceiling. Instead of submitting for a leak, I just resubmitted that the work wasn’t complete yet. I had the plumbing company come out. They fixed it, and then I asked them what I needed to do as far as the stain in the ceiling goes, and he said it wasn’t that bad. I should just paint over it.
American Home Shield has been pretty good with us. They have seemed responsive. When you submit a claim online, you just put in the issue, and then hit submit and the site would say the company would be in contact with you. I would usually look up the ratings of the company that AHS selected, and if it has really poor ratings, I would just cancel the claim and then try fixing the issue myself because I've learned that I would rather spend the money myself than have a deal with somebody that might make it worse.
Sometimes we've had negative experiences, but we knew it wasn't them and it might have been because of a poor trade that they had paired us up with. There was an instance when a company was coming out to work on the refrigerator, and they were really poor and unresponsive. I found it really hard to get a new help because the company wouldn't respond to my calls. We kept following after them day after day. Then I contacted AHS and they told me that all they could do was call the company and see if they would answer. So I had to wait while our groceries were in a couple of coolers because the refrigerator wasn’t working. We ended up going a couple of months without a refrigerator.
I just went and bought a small dorm size refrigerator and shoved everything in there while we were waiting for the refrigerator to get fixed. That process was excruciating, but AHS ended up finding somebody else to help us. We've been pleased with AHS so far, but I don’t know how they address things when a trade causes another problem.

Our air conditioner wasn’t cooling properly. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and navigating through their website was fairly easy. The contractors that are sent are always helpful. However, they made a mistake when they wired up the thermostat previously and that was why I made the last service call. Still, American Home Shield got the issue resolved eventually and they gave me a credit on a couple of service calls that I had submitted.
Also, I had a very high power bill because of the AC problem but they said, as per their contract, they couldn’t reimburse any type of power bill. So I was happy with at least getting a couple of the service calls refunded. Any type of home warranty is valuable and American Home Shield seems reasonable with their pricing. I’d recommend American Home Shield. Give them a call.

My wife was at that time and she was happy that it was a simple thing. The water heater is in the laundry room and that’s also where we keep the dog food in a big plastic container. My dogs get excited when it’s time to feed them. One of them may have shut off the water heater with the way they try to squeeze between the water heater and the food container. Our icemaker went out and then a week later, the whole refrigerator went out. I called American Home Shield to submit the claim and my interactions with the rep were fine. They scheduled the service for the icemaker fairly quickly. But for the second service call, they put me through an automated system which gave an appointment for a week later. We would have been out without a refrigerator for a week and I thought that was unacceptable. So, I called back the next day during regular working hours and they were able to get me an appointment sooner. And the contractors who were sent were good and got the job done.
In the course of the refrigerator going out, I learned that if it couldn’t be repaired or if it had to be replaced, my choices would be limited. I would have to go through the purchasing department and then I'd be given three choices. I wouldn’t have the option to keep the same color as the rest of our appliances and I didn’t wanna get into that situation. So, I was relieved that we didn’t have to do that because the repairman was able to repair the existing refrigerator.Still, had it been the case or if something else breaks down and I have limited options because the company is trying to save money, that wouldn’t be very satisfactory as a homeowner. The service we have had from American Home Shield has been good, but we do not plan to renew the warranty. Apparently, we didn’t test the limits of what we could have needed.

I called AHS and they got a hold of him, then he got a hold of me. He had to remove about five pounds of my Freon because it was overfilled, but if it wasn’t cooling off the way it should properly cool off, he would put it back in without charging me.
It went smoothly and he fixed the issue within an hour and a half. He was very good, fantastic, knowledgeable, and very professional. He was very nice and was quite a gentleman. He also told me to call him if I had any more problems. Everything has been great since the repair, although he had to come back and do the ducts because somebody had stepped on one of them.

It went out on a Thursday and he came out that Saturday. Our air conditioner was blowing hot air. He put some kind of cylinder and that was what it needed.
He had come out before for the same problem and he came out again. He was honest because he could have said there were more things wrong than what was really wrong. And it wasn’t like he was trying to get money and he was a Christian which I liked. It went very well because I've had plumbers out here to do a job and I was very disappointed in them and they didn’t really do very well. I had three bathrooms. They all had the same problems. They needed to have the pump or whatever that goes inside, replaced plus some valves and whatever and they just did one and they put a Band-Aid on another one and tightened up something and that was it and they left. They didn’t fix the problem.
I ended up getting new things because of that. And then I've had others come out to fix my refrigerator, my stove, and then it would be broken again. So I was very pleased with this person. I haven't had any problems since he came out. I've heard other people who have American Home Shield that have had bad experience with them but I haven't had that.

The interaction I had with the rep was really horrible and it was an extremely bad experience. I would my tell my friends to find a different company. So, I am in NC, approximately 92 degrees, as in hot! I put in a service request approximately 3 weeks ago. The contractor has been to my home at least 10 times for the AC/central air. 1st diagnosis was the compressor was bad and needed replacement. Sad thing is, I had to pay $802 in Freon costs. Well, lo and behold, the AC unit went back to "not working" status. So, what and why the hell do I have to suck up the cost of the Freon when obviously that wasn't the problem. In this 10 visits, it's a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but then hours later the unit breaks down AGAIN! So now, it's Friday, 530p, and my contractor is gone for the weekend. WTH am I suppose to do? Well, I spoke with a rep and she kindly told me I was not considered an 'emergency' and only at 105 degrees would I be. Let me say this AHS, I am sure there is a nominal amount of customers that fall into that category, compared to the non-emergencies.
Glad to know the needs of the few outweighs the needs of the many. And to top it off, if the contractor works M-F, I have to WAIT UNTIL MONDAY! AHS, you care so precise in your contract about what you will and won't do. PSA: You should let your customers know if their complaint falls after normal work hours, you are ** out of luck. Write that in your contract. And to boot, you have had my service since 2007, two homes and yet there is no hope for a client after hours. Shame on you. And shame on you for not being transparent with your customers and SHAME in you that this customer had to absorb $802 only to find out it wasn't even necessary. I will be posting this on the FB page and internet sources that will allow me to leave a review. #thecustomeralwayscomefirst

We filed a claim for a repair on our air conditioner on Saturday 7/21. On Tuesday 7/24, late afternoon All About Comfort arrived for the repair and replaced the capacitor and noted that the unit was in need of cleaning because their pressure was high. The unit was cleaned And ran through the night but never got below 83 degrees so I called them and asked them to come back out which they refused to do because I didn’t have the unit cleaned by them. I called American Home Shield where I was on hold for more than 45 minutes, the call center was in another country with very loud chatter of other representatives taking calls at the center to where I could barely hear the representative. I asked for another company to be sent out and they couldn’t do ours in for a second opinion because the diagnosis from the first company wasn’t in the system yet.
Mind you, this is summer in Oklahoma. It’s hot and I have four children, one of them a heart patient that does not do well in the heat. So I request to cancel the contract for refund. After another 30+ minutes on hold, I reach a nice person in game retention department who helps me. She starts a new expedited claim and sends a new company out which I greatly appreciated. The new HVAC company shows up and immediately sees the problem. The valve on our a/c unit was either left open or lose either when the first company replaced the capacitor or from when they measured the pressures on the unit. The unit had Freon when the first company got here and now it is bone dry.
Freon is not covered by the contact and it will cost around $500 or more to replace it. So I called AHS to see if they would cover it since the damage was caused by the company they sent out and as of now we are 7 days without a/c and heading into the weekend, they have yet to resolve the issue. Not only do I feel like I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get a repair, I feel completely disrespected by the company’s lack of attention to the matter.
Yesterday when I called a supervisor had signed off on getting the Freon put it for us but today 7/27 when I called, nothing was finalized on it to move forward so here we sit, a family of six in an 85 degree home unable to cook hot meals for dinner because it’s too hot and kids sweating to death in their rooms as they play or try to sleep at night. Unacceptable. So this is it, if American Home Shield won’t back their service and their customers, we will have to be out of pocket several hundred dollars to repair it ourselves to make sure our family is taken care of.

I called AHS and they said the part would take a week to come. It's a dryer belt! I told them I would pick it up myself, 5 min from my house. They said they would call comp to come back out. Comp did not answer calls or emails from AHS or us. I called back today... Fri. AHS tells me to return the part. I have to wait for theirs to come in. They also can't get the comp to answer. So, instead of just sending out another comp to fix my dryer, I must wait a week because of policy. We have used AHS many times. I won't use them again. They are what you hear. Crooks.

The tech showed up 5 hours late to fix my toilet, which was under my warranty. Told me he'd deny it if I didn't bribe him 50 bucks!!! So I'm ashamed to say I paid him the extra dirty money, cause I'm out the 75 service call fee either way and really needed it fixed. I feel completely taken advantage of, so that's what you can expect from AHS. I've been trying to cancel it all week as well, and they won't let you, nobody will answer the phone!!!

MY SECOND REVIEW REGARDING AHS. I should note that I reached out to the customer account manager, who gave me his direct email and phone number LAST time, if I ever needed his help again, only to be ignored after repeated attempts to contact him. So, I'm compelled to share my experience ONCE again. I recently had another incredibly poor experience with a vendor through which American Home Shield employs. Air Doctor A/C & Heating was recently dispatched to repair my forever ailing A/C unit, and although the repairs were done quickly, their appointment and accommodation to meet the appointment were not. (2-1/2 hours late after waiting 4 hours = 6-1/2 hours.)
Request for service was put in through the website on Saturday 6/30. I received a phone call on my way to work at 8:45 a.m. on Monday 7/2, to inform me that my ONLY options were THAT very Monday from 11 to 3, or four days later on Thursday 11 to 3. Obviously, due to the house being 95 degrees already, I opted for the same day service. I requested a phone call 30-45 minutes prior to the technician arriving so I could leave work and miss as little as possible of my work day, but they told me she could only give me 10-15 minutes notice.
Not wanting to miss my appointment, I felt forced to leave MY job, so HE could do HIS job. I left work and was home by 11 and waited over 6 hours before the technician showed up. I contacted Air Doctor around the 3:00 mark, only to be told I "was next" and "it won't be long now". After 5:00 I called again, only to find they had now closed for the day and I then had no idea if anyone was still coming to my home or not. They returned my call, and said he would still be there, but unsure "when". By 6 pm we had A/C running after a fix that took 20 minutes.
AGAIN, this level of service from the vendors they are choosing to work with, in a state where A/C is vital to the health and security of Florida residents is really poor. Either they have too many appointments, or cannot seem to staff properly to improve on the timeliness of the ones they have. On a side-note: this A/C unit continues to need the same repairs over & over, and I am curious if this is all that will continue to be done, and when does it come to the point when the system is evaluated and repaired 100%? Answer is: NEVER.

I've been a customer of AHS for over 5 years. I recently contacted the customer services department regarding my air conditioning unit and the lack of coverage available for the replacement of the evaporator coil that I was told needed replacing along with 8 lbs of freon. The young lady I spoke to informed me that I had to pay $1342 toward the evaporator coil and I would need 8lbs of freon at $85 per lb. I simply asked her how much would AHS be covering and she said she didn't know. I asked her why and she said they wouldn't know the price until they ordered the part. I told her I was really upset with the fact that she couldn't tell me how much they would cover.
Therefore, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she told me that the Supervisor was going to tell me the same thing and I said "I didn't ask what the supervisor was going to say", I wanted to speak to the supervisor and she told me that a supervisor wasn't available so she would have to put in a request for a supervisor to contact me. She proceeded to ask me if I had any other questions for her and I simply told her "no" because she couldn't answer any of my questions so I ended the call. About 2-3 days later I received a called from Supervisor (Colleen). I explained to Colleen my frustration with the price I had to pay for my air conditioning unit and I reminded her of the issues I have had in the past as well as the age of the unit.
I asked her why couldn't the unit be replaced because based on the age of the unit and the availability freon wouldn't be available because it was going be obsolete next year and she stated that they couldn't replace the unit. I explained to her that the technician informed me that it would be a waste of money to replace the evaporator coil and the unit should be replaced but he knew they wouldn't honor my request. Colleen proceeded to tell me that if I wanted to purchase a unit through one of their certified vendors they would give me a credit of $770 toward a new one. I said $770 toward a $6500- $7000.00 unit and that's it. I told her that I was very unhappy with the process knowing that my unit was 24 years old. Since I was headed out of town I told her I would get back with her to discuss further. She informed me that I could contact her at ** and I told her I would call her when I return.
On July 19th after I returned my unit upstairs had gone out also and it was 90 degrees in my home, I called Colleen but could not reach her so I left her a message asking her to please give me a call and informed her that both units were out at my home and it was 90 degrees in the house which literally made me sick with a bad headache for days. Colleen did not return my call so I called her 4 more times on July 20th with no return call and again on July 23rd and still no return call. I checked the status of my service request online to discover it had been closed out. I submitted another request for the upstairs unit and when I tried to click the link to request a time I couldn't, therefore, I called AHS and was told that my request was cancelled.
I asked the young lady why and she said because they were waiting on me about the evap coil replacement, I told the young lady that it was for my unit upstairs and she said they thought it was for the downstairs unit so they closed it. I asked her why would they assume without calling me so the request were rescheduled, in which my request was pushed further behind. I was livid and hung up. The Technician couldn't get to my home until July 25th, he serviced my upstairs unit and got it running, he also informed me that replacing the evaporator coil would be a waste of time just as the other technician told me.
I am disappointed with the lack of interest I have received in regards to this issue; it certainly does not entice me to purchase other products in the future. This incident has left me with a strong, negative impact toward your company, one which is only highlighted by the fact that I don't feel my request is one so out of the ordinary. I will be cancelling my membership and make others aware of how the service is a waste of time.
Good morning Sarah

Air conditioner stopped cooling on 7/20/18 in the middle of Arizona summer heat over 110 degrees. Submitted service request on AHS immediately and called the contractor directly. Contractor could not schedule emergency service until 5 days later! Contacted AHS customer service and requested changing contractors for emergency service. Was assigned a different company and again called the contractor directly to schedule emergency service. Second company could come out 3 days later, still unacceptable.
Finally called a contractor not through AHS and had service appointment within 2 hours but had to pay out of pocket. Contractor diagnosed the problem to a failed compressor but recommended full replacement based on 15 year age and old R22 coolant. Thankfully this contractor let me use some portable AC units for 3 days until the AHS contractor could visit. When the AHS contractor arrived 3 days later, they also had the same diagnosis of bad compressor and potentially other coil leaks. They too recommended full AC replacement. Ended up hiring the helpful contractor who assisted in the emergency situation to replace the whole AC unit but had to pay entirely out of pocket.
Seeking assistance from AHS now for their financial assistance in resolving this situation but can't for the life of me get through to a customer service representative on the phone for payment in lieu of repair. I truly wish AHS customer service could have been more help finding a contractor who could assist in emergency situations like no AC in Arizona.
Good morning Loren,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service to have the expedited service claim addressed. Per your decision to have the unit repaired outside of AHS, I am ware that you are requesting a reimbursement for the cost. I would be glad to speak with you and address your concerns.

After three worthless AHS repair visits for my heat-pump at $75 each, my heat-pump was still not cooling at all (in 100 degree weather!). AHS made another service call (another $75), and the technician noted that the problem was the heat pump's air-handler, which was simply not working and was not fixable, so he recommended to AHS that a replacement be authorized and the next evening AHS called to say it would replace the unit, if I agreed to pay ‘just’ $800 for ‘parts that are not covered, so I agreed that it would be OK, but the next day AHS went back on its word! AHS told me that the tech could not find any replacements, and so AHS could not replace anything and would not authorize a replacement, but when I advised them that the technician told me he found a replacement for $2006 and that he never told AHS that he could not find a replacement(!) AHS simply said that was not true.
I offered to put the tech on a conference call with us to see who was lying, but AHS refused. On June 18 AHS said it would only pay $817.80 as a “cash out,” instead of $2006, if I found a licensed contractor to do the work. I used the very same contractor that AHS employed and installed the very same model air-handler that he found, and on June 28 AHS said it would mail a check that I would receive in 10-14 days, but no check arrived.
I contacted AHS again of July 18, and AHS said the check was mailed on July 3: Their customer service person said she would reissue and mail the check that day, but no check arrived once again! Because it lied about the contractor not being able to find a replacement, AHS owes me reimbursement of $2006 for the air-handler that I paid for out of my pocket: Forget about the $800 “cash-out,” which is just something that clouds the issue. It also owes me $225 for the three previous worthless service calls. AHS owes me $2231 total!
Updated on 08/09/2018: I made a complaint on this consumeraffairs.com site about AHS not paying the money it promised me for a heat pump's air-handler. AHS replied that it would "discuss" the issue with me but DID NOTHING. It wrote, "I would be glad to speak with you and address the reimbursement that was offered." so I sent them my phone number to call or text me, but they did nothing. ANOTHER LIE: they said they would contact me but they did not!
Good morning Robert,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced as well as the CIL offer toward your new AC system. I would be glad to speak with you and address the reimbursement that was offered.

On July 10 I put in a service request for a plumbing leak. I was emailed a confirmation and was expecting a call from Mayes Plumbing, but heard nothing. I called Mayes Plumbing the following day and they told me they were having computer problems but would call me back. Once again, I heard nothing. I called American Home Shield and explained to them the situation and that I had water leaking through my ceiling and down my walls (and after waiting for considerable time on hold) they cancelled that company and told me that they would put in an expeditious request from another company (where I would get service within 24 hours). I also asked for a supervisor and they told me that supervisors are never available and would have to call me back. I asked that they call me back.
They then told me that Stilwell Plumbing would contact me to set up an appointment. On Friday, July 13th I still hadn't heard from anyone. I called Stilwell Plumbing and could not get through to them. Once again, I called American Home Shield and they contacted Stilwell Plumbing and told me, because this is an emergency, Stilwell will call me on Sunday July 15, to set up an appointment for that day. Once again, I asked for a supervisor to call me back.
By Monday, July 16, I had not heard from anyone. I called Stilwell on Monday and they told me they did not have any request from American Home Shield. I called American Home Shield who called Stilwell and they said they could only come out Tuesday between 4 pm and 8 pm. I asked for a supervisor to call me back. Stilwell came on Tuesday night at 10:30 pm (without ever calling to tell me that they would be late). The man they sent could not find where the leak was coming from and said he would have to make a hole in my ceiling in order to find it. We showed him that there was water under our refrigerator above the ceiling and asked him to check the plumbing for the refrigerator and ice maker. He said there was nothing wrong with the plumbing for either the refrigerator or ice maker. He also said that he would have to get permission to cut a hole in my ceiling since it is wood boards and not sheetrock.
Since the office was closed he would call me back the next morning. Meanwhile within the week that had passed, the water damage was getting more and more extensive. I heard nothing from Stilwell the following morning. I called them and they said that I would have to pay out of pocket $150 for them to make a hole in my ceiling. I decided to call an independent plumber who came right away and moved my refrigerator to find a small hole in the piping of the ice maker. He replaced the piping and the leak stopped. He also went to the ceiling downstairs and unscrewed one of the boards to check the leak -- WITHOUT cutting a hole in the ceiling but by just unscrewing one of the boards.
I subsequently called American Home Shield yet again to tell them what had transpired and that I was expecting the company to cover the bill from the plumber. They agreed with me about the fact that someone should have been there within 24 hours and said they would talk to another department and get back to me. I still have not heard back from them. This last Saturday, July 21st I received a voice message from American Home Shield stating that in order to fix the problem, Stilwell could come and do it if I paid $240.00 for them to cut a hole in the ceiling!!!
Seems like American Home Shield sends service companies out to customers' homes that are unprofessional, dishonest and incapable of doing the work. I have wasted countless hours on the phone, have yet to hear from a supervisor and American Home Shield agents have disconnected the calls when putting me on hold several times and even though they have my phone number have never bothered to call me back. I had to call back and waste more time. They seem to have no regard for their customers even though they readily accept my monthly payments. Beware of this company.
Updated on 07/31/2018: Last week when I posted my previous review of how bad this company is to deal with -- someone responded quite soon after that review on this website saying they would be "glad to speak with me". I guess that was for social media marketing purpose because I am still waiting! Saturday, someone emailed me to tell me where to call. I called and left a message, emailed, called and left a message and called again and left a message. No response, not even the courtesy of a return email to say when they would contact me or if they're not interested in pursuing this anymore. When I called again today another agent said that they are dealing with over 40 social media issues... seems to be really telling about American Home Shield. This company seems to be unresponsive within every department.
Good morning Laura,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have the plumbing leak repaired. Also, per the diagnosis through AHS I am aware that several cost were quoted to create access. I would be glad to speak with you and address the repairs that were completed.

American Home Shield was the most reputable company for me. I know a couple of people who recommended them and didn't know of any better option. We bought a new house and got their warranty. We've had three claims since then. The one with Hendriks Electric went well. They came out and the technician was able to resolve the attic ventilation fan problem. However, we had another claim for our air conditioner and that was a little more problematic since it was a weekend and they had trouble getting somebody out there to fix it. It took several hours and they ended up giving us authorization to go find our own repair man ‘cause they weren’t able to find somebody that could come out during the weekend.
Currently, we're dealing with a contractor called SureTech for microwave repair. Though AHS has been fine, our experience with the contractor has been very difficult. We found that for initial claim on June 11th, they initially sent somebody out here within two days which was great. Their technician diagnosed it and the micro wave needed some parts. They called us back three weeks later when they got the parts and wanted to come out a week after that.
But then, they couldn’t get somebody out for a week. Since then, they have cancelled five times over the course of three weeks. The contractor finally came and the technician was very nice. But then the part that they had ordered was broken. So he went to fix it. However, the person doing the scheduling has been terrible. She keeps screwing up the dates and cancelling. The same person who schedules is supposed to check for quality control, and she didn't do that, so SureTech's gonna have to reorder the part. If it’s gonna be another three weeks to order parts, I’ll just call American Home Shield and say I want a new contractor ‘cause this is not acceptable.

When I call AHS, they get someone out and the people that come out are very professional. When I call to submit a claim, they ask me for my account number. Their reps are very pleasant and understanding. They’ll give me the company’s name that’s coming out and if I don’t hear from them within 24 hours, then I can call them. But sometimes I’m very impatient, so I’ll call them as soon they get out. I’ll wait about an hour and then I’ll call the company and the company will set me an appointment. Sometimes, they come out the same day if they have openings and if not, they come out in about two days.
Recently, something was wrong with the garbage disposal and the tech that AHS sent was very pleasant. He told me what the problem was and he fixed it. He told me that if I have any problems with it, he’ll come back out and I won’t have to pay within 30 days. All I have is good experience with AHS. I haven't had any problems with their customer service and online, and I really like the companies that they send out. My daughter and my friend have AHS also.

My only concern is that it takes me forever when I call in something that needs to be answered by a person. So, I do it online when I submit a claim. Then the technician found out I had a leak in my cooling system where the Freon was leaking out so they plugged it and they loaded back up the Freon and ever since then the unit is working fine.
Air Plus was great and the guy was professional. He gave me pointers on fees to keep my cost down and keep things running smoothly. He also said I'm doing a good job with everything. I got other stuff that regulate the system pretty well and he said, “Yeah. You have to maintain it. You kept your service up on it and so you just want no freak accident to happen.” I recommend AHS all the time. I tell people I don’t care what they read out there online. Submitting claims at American Home Shield is super easy. You just call and the automated system guides you through the process. I've been super delighted with their reps and have even left messages with their supervisors to tell them what great customer service I received. Recently, GE delivered a stacked washer and dryer, but because I did not have a hard tailpipe for the dryer vent, they were unable to do the installation. So I had to hire a contractor locally to put in a hard tailpipe. Then I contacted American Home Shield, and now I'm waiting for another contractor to come out and actually install my washer and dryer. When I bought the home, the warranty was negotiated as part of the contract. I've been so delighted with how quickly AHS responds and the contractors that they have sent out that when it's up next year, I'm going to re-enroll. They're professional, reliable and timely. On the other hand, I live in Duval County in Florida and it seems like on a lot of times I file a claim and I get the email saying who the contractor is and a lot of them can be coming from Orlando or Jacksonville, where they don't have very good reviews. I filed a claim with AHS for my AC and had a wonderful experience. They sent out people twice and the third time, AHS decided eventually to replace the AC. AHS wanted a second opinion which was the official reason, but they simply would like somebody to do it cheaply and nobody ever came out to give the second opinion. We would have been saved the first opinion. It's a delaying tactic on part of the warranty companies. I literally had to call twice because I was yet to be tied. I asked when they would resolve the issue and they said they'd check into it and call me back, but they never did.
I called back and they were polite, really helpful and I was told that it was approved, but they had to wait for an authorization number. That took a week and that was with me calling because they had been down. Now, their delivery was, "The authorization was issued," and they simply sat on it. I literally sat on the phone and the guy said he would expedite it. I said, "Oh, now, you'll expedite it? It takes four weeks. That's really nice of you. I'm not leaving this telephone until you send a confirmation to Central Virginia." I hung on the phone until that was done and I was 45 minutes on the phone. The next morning, Central Virginia called us and said that they got it and needed to make a schedule.
We were at 98-degree weather every day and Central Virginia took a week to get the AC out here. They did an outstanding job and I'd recommend them to anybody, but not American Home Shield because they knew the AC was bad. If they had done it within a week, I would have been a happy camper because I understand warranties, but it was almost a month. The claim process started on June 11 and I didn't get the AC until July 6th. The only reason we survived the ordeal was we had to live in an air-conditioned office on the same grounds as our house. We lived there with our two doggies and we had to run back and forth to the house for meals. It was not a good idea.
I re-upped with AHS, but I'm having second thoughts about carrying on because if I got that same kind of treatment every time I called on a claim, I'd go out to wherever they're located and wring somebody's neck. It was very frustrating. AHS had several complaints where it took them too long to do things, but I took some of that with a grain of salt because it is the nature of the business.

I submitted claims for a non-working ceiling fan and leaky faucets, a running toilet and a non-working shower bypass on the tub faucet back in late April of 2018. Sioux Falls Electric showed up the first week of May and the provider diagnosed that the fan needed to be replaced. To date, it has not been replaced and no tech has ever been back to my home despite four phone calls to AHS about this. For the plumbing, the first contractor never responded to the work order. I called, emailed and left voice messages.
Finally, after about three weeks, the contractor called me and told me he didn't know when he would have time to come by to look at my problem. I called AHS and they had another contractor from a town 50 miles away come and look at the problem. He looked at the faucets but did not look at the shower bypass on the tub faucet. He said he'd be back in three days. That was over a month ago now and still no response from AHS or the contractor. This is all for some leaky faucets, running toilet, a non-working shower head and a ceiling fan. Three months. Three. Months. Nothing. Sort of begs the question of what is going to happen if something more serious like my furnace dies in the middle of winter. Am I going to be setting fire to my living room furniture waiting for AHS to get the repair/replace done???
Also, sitting on the phone for half an hour at a time waiting for someone to take my call is frustrating as well. And then, when you do get through, having the CSR tell you that the "system is down" and you need to call back does not help either. And, when I'm told that I need to speak with Authorizations regarding my work order status, how am I supposed to do that when I do not have a "dispatch number" to use and the system hangs up on me???

I have a 2 zone system w/ 6 year old Payne HVAC systems on a home that I purchased one year ago. Both systems were inspected and in good working condition prior to my home purchase. I've had no AC from my 2nd floor unit since late June. The unit comes on, but does not blow cold air. I live in the south where it is hot. A tech was sent out who diagnosed the problem as "contaminated refrigerant". Although we had a language barrier issue, what I understood him to say was that he was unable to determine if there was a leak. He could not perform that test.
But he was going to flush the system and replace the refrigerant at a cost of several hundred dollars to me. His diagnosis was made by calling his manager and describing that a tiny screw/cap that seemed to be missing from a valve on the unit. That was the basis for his "contaminated refrigerant" diagnosis. I requested a second opinion as I did not have much confidence in the assessment and feared that if refrigerant was replaced and there was indeed a leak, that it would be a waste of my money.
The second company came out last week. Two days ago I received a call from an AHS agent telling me they were denying the claim as it was old damage. The second tech found leaks both in the evaporative coil as well as the condenser coil. His recommendation was that the entire system needed to be replaced. He also claimed he found nitrogen in the system and asked if the first tech put it there. I am not an AC technician, which is why I purchased a home warranty so asking me this question seems bizarre. I do not know if the first tech put it there.
This second tech also claimed there was no refrigerant in the system as it had all leaked out. Which would seem to explain why the unit will come on, but not produce cold air. I do not understand how nitrogen would've gotten in a system that had previously been working if one of these two techs didn't put it there. A call to a friend who has been in the HVAC business for 40+ years provided me with the enough info to confirm that all of these diagnoses are suspect. Someone would've had to put nitrogen in there yet both are denying it. He said he would never use nitrogen and did not know why they would've used it.
The second tech claimed there was indications of oil on the ground near the unit, therefore it had been malfunctioning for a long time and "would never have been working", per his diagnosis. This is utterly false as it was functioning up to June of this year. Again, this is a 6 year old Payne system (whose 5 year warranty expired shortly before I took ownership of this house). I have "Insufficient Maintenance/Improper Installations" coverage which the escalations agent (Elena) thought might allow coverage, however because they claim it (the oil on the ground) is "detectable" in a visual inspection they are standing with their denial. She claimed this was her supervisor's decision.
The first agent who provided me the initial denial report asked me if I had a home inspection prior to purchasing this home. I told her I'd just bought it last summer and did have one done upon going under contract. She asked me to provide them the A/C report from my inspection which I was in the process of doing when I heard back from the escalations agent who told me that an inspection is only valid for 45 days prior to my going under contract with AHS. Two customer service agents providing conflicting info to their customers.
Does this sound like a legitimate company who are honoring their contracts? Who have legitimate service companies with skilled technicians performing their work? Or trying to find false loopholes with which to beat their customers down with until they become weary enough to just let it go? I've already sought legal advice and following this report I intend to provide the same to the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance, as stated in my contract for VA residents.
Incidentally, when I asked Elena who their regulator is she asked me if I meant their CEO? As she seemed to not be knowledgeable about this, upon finding this in the contract, I shared it with her as I felt it might be a useful piece of information for an Escalations Agent to know. The first company was ATR General Services and the second was West End Heating & Air Conditioning.

Disaster, 3 weeks to repair AC in the middle of Summer here in TX: Submitting claim is easy and their assigned technician will come to your home in a day. But it takes them a week to call you back for the insurance approval result. If you ask them what is the other option because the out of pocket is much higher than what I expected (for my AC repair they ask $1460) they may say you can try cash out option and they do no explanation what is it and they tell you someone will call the same day. (My biggest mistake to say, "Yes I would like to see how the cash out option works," because it took one week for them to call me back with the offer of $600 cash. I said, "How come when your technician estimate $3600 for repair.")
When you reject cash out option and go back to your first option which is $1460 out of pocket then you have to wait for the technician to call you, then you realize they never called your technician to let them know you approve out of pocket, after the technician get the approval then they need to order the parts and schedule for repair when they get the parts. You do the math, I can fix this on my own without the help of home warranty for $1800, they charged me $1460 and it took almost 3 weeks and so many phone calls.

American Home Shield scheduled someone from my area to come out and check my dryer and dishwasher complaints. And the contractors usually go back and tell them what they find and if they need parts, then they schedule and come out again and fix them. Submitting a claim with them over the phone is fine, though sometimes you have to wait quite a while. But their representatives are very professional and their contractors are generally very good. Everything’s running fine and I’m satisfied with AHS.

I rarely write reviews but my current situation with American Home Shield is insane. Buyers beware!!! We expect a home warranty company to provide timely repairs... they never do. This latest incident with my refrigerator has tested my limits. It’s been more than 3 weeks since I initiated a claim. The refrigerator died. It’s 8 years old and the repairman really thought they would cash out since it’s a major rebuild. They authorized the repairs so I wait for parts. The repair company informed me today that they do not have an ETA on a factory only part and it could be quite some time. So 3 weeks, 105 degree, heat, no water, ice or food at home.
I called AHS and they validated that the remaining part could take 3 more weeks or longer to get and I just had to wait. Nothing they could do. So I asked for them to provide a rental Fridge in the meanwhile...they called me back and offered me a DORM fridge. I currently have 28 cubic foot fridge with 6 people living in the house. I asked if I could escalate to someone and I was Referred to their website. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY and luckily my renewal is coming due. I will absolutely cancel.
Updated on 08/06/2018: After posting a negative review on Consumer Affairs... Here's what happened. They followed up with two canned responses on this forum with no direct way to contact them. They left me a voicemail saying "she hadn't heard back from me after sending me an email". Never got an email. I called her back and have left 5 messages and about 8 hang ups after receiving her voicemail. Responses on this site from AHS are not sincere.
I understand your concerns with your most recent service experience to have your refrigerator repaired and the inconvenience the delay in service ha caused. I would be glad to speak with you and get the repairs completed.

We just moved into our house and we wanted to make sure that the AC was running optimally given how hot it is out there. I made a claim online and American Home Shield put me in touch with the AC vendor. They scheduled the appointment and the contractor came out, and he was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable and really helpful. He took the time to explain what his assessment of the situation was. He also made some suggestions on what we could do. The experience was positive front to back, and it's a good service to have buying a new home.

The guy from ABC Overhead Doors came out a month ago and said that the door sprung and it had to be replaced, and if we replace the big door, we had to replace the other door too. It turns out the only things they fixed were the springs and the latches. He quoted me a price of $3,500 for the doors and said that I gotta pay for all that. He also said that he can’t put the order in that day, but he’ll put it in next Monday and I’ll have it in a week. It has been taking a long time and he called to apologize. I got a call yesterday from the door company that they are installing it on Saturday morning.
We also had a problem with the refrigerator. The tech man came out and he got the icemaker working, but none of the dials light up so we can’t set anything on the refrigerator. Also, when we put the chalk in it back together, it doesn’t fit, so I called yesterday and asked if we can have the tech man come back out here and fix what he didn’t fix. The guy that came out to repair it didn’t do it right and we’re still waiting for him to come back. However, I’m still waiting for someone to call and tell me what time he’s coming.
The American Home Shield reps are extremely polite and very quick to deal with the problem, while the people who come out range from very good to average. They answered all my questions and responded to everything I wanted. The problem is the vendor, although some of it is American Home Shield, like the coverage. We didn’t like the contractor that they originally sent to me for the air conditioner, as well as their quote. The guy worked for an hour, but after he left, we discovered that the lights didn’t work. The control panel he put in was not working properly and the pieces he put together were not put together properly.
We hired our own contractor, independent of American Home Shield, and I needed to pay $75 only to discover that I can’t use them. I also had a problem with the delivery of the garage door when they said it was gonna be delivered in a week and a half, although it has already been over a month. We’ve also had a couple of windows where the steels aren’t working properly, but American Home Shield doesn’t cover windows, so that’s not very good.
I had a long chat yesterday with a woman from American Home Shield and we were on the phone for about half an hour. She called to find out if everything was okay. We also discussed the various projects. She understood what I was discussing with her and it was a very good conversation. American Home Shield is trying to do their best. Some of the contractors they have picked are very good, while some of them are not so good. They’re gonna use the same contractor unless they get customer feedback. The policy is clear as to what it talked about.

Overall, in terms of the promptness of the response and the kind of contractors that American Home Shield usually sends, I'm very satisfied. The only problem that I encountered was when they changed the policy of the copay. In the past, it went directly to the contractor but now, the copay is taken out by AHS. But there are some glitches after they made that policy change which created problems in the last two services I had.
I received an email saying that I was delinquent and I had to call two representatives to clarify the issue. The first one told me that everything was okay but then I got another email. The second representative told me that everything was okay, that she fixed it and that it was the company's mistake. But then I got a letter in the mail saying that I was still delinquent. So I called back and spoke to a third representative. She apologized and said that everything was straightened out now.
It was really difficult to understand why the $75 copay could become an issue though. I have an updated credit card on file and my contract premium is automatically deducted from my credit card every month. So there shouldn't be any problem getting the $75 copay. But obviously, it was an accident and the company would be very capable of repairing whatever glitches are there. Still, I'm recommending that my son, who bought a new house, contact the company and see if he can get a contract.

So, I called American Home Shield and they took care of the claim without a hassle. They gave us the phone number to call and we called that phone number. The guy showed up on time and it took him about five minutes to fix it. AHS is a good company. It’s a great idea when you buy a new house or trade into a different house. You never know what kind of condition the appliances are in and how long before something goes out. AHS is an economical way to protect yourself. There’s a small service charge when they send people out but it seems like they are gonna take care of the bills. I’m a happy customer.

I needed a range repaired as the back burner would not light, the pre-heat on the oven was taking too long and you could smell gas. It was difficult since I have kids here so I don’t like to use the front burners, and I'd have to light it with a lighter or a match. I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and the first contractor they sent didn’t seem like he should even be working for a company doing that. He was asking me a lot of questions and it was difficult for me to interact with him because I work at home. He was giving me a lot of jargon and I couldn’t answer any of the questions. Somebody else was sent out that was very good and I would recommend that contractor to anyone whether they’ve got American Home Shield or not.
However, there was a part that was discontinued and they weren’t able to do the total repair. But it was nice to be offered another stove, not the one that I would have chosen but I didn’t have to pay for it. When the new stove was brought, it sat in my family room for over a month because there was a back and forth wherein the install couldn't be paid for. I ended up paying out of pocket and AHS said they would reimburse me but I still haven't received it. A couple of evenings ago, I got an email that they didn’t know what happened and that they were sending it, but I still don’t have it.
Another situation was when my daughter’s tub on the third floor stopped up and the guy that first came out said he didn’t know how far down the lines would be. He stayed out for a long time in his truck, then he came back in and said he was concerned about doing damage to a wall. He didn’t want to take the responsibility to do it. Then somebody else was called and they were supposed to come back and fix the faucet. It had a steady drip and that’s why it kept filling up even though it was stopped up. But they never came back. Also, I've got an email that AHS has been trying to contact me because my service representative had not been able to reach me and I haven't called for anything. I called them and they told me that it was gonna be an hour wait and I just left and hung up. AHS started out pretty good and now I don't know what's going on.

My air conditioner wasn’t coming on in my Louisiana home. I have a small cellphone and the older I get, the lesser I see well. It's easier just to pick up the phone and call American Home Shield to submit a claim. I called on a Friday. The contractor told me from the beginning, “I will not be there today.” It's late in the evening around 6 o’clock. I said, “I didn’t expect you to come today, but please get me some cool air because my little puppies are hot.” He was very professional and he finally showed up on Tuesday evening.
He said that I didn’t have an AC problem but an electrical problem. He also said it was something in the breaker and he would call American Home Shield and tell them to transfer it from AC to electrical. I was really concerned because for some reason, my deductible and my service fees are higher in Louisiana than in my home in Georgia. It's just the Louisiana greed, I call it. But he said, “No, you don’t have to pay twice. I'm gonna call in. Don’t you worry about anything. You will be cool by tomorrow.”
He told me that somebody would be out within an hour and I just didn’t expect that to happen. It was just too late in the evening. But the second gentleman did call me and said he would be here first thing in the morning. The funny part was when the guy came in, he said that we should give the AC a few minutes because he was feeling cool air. I said he should trust me that there was no cool air. I also told him that I've been in the house for four days with no cool air. So we just chit-chatted for a few minutes and then he said the AC did not seem like it was getting cooler. He was absolutely wonderful and professional. I really appreciate him coming out and what he did for the breaker and he got it going within 20 minutes.
The only thing I was disappointed about is when I got the program, I thought my ceiling fan and my dishwasher were covered and I found out just last week they were not. Even so AHS is absolutely awesome. I've already recommended American Home Shield and gave my experience with them on the Nextdoor app. I put out that I had a great experience with AHS. My service call cost me only $100. And a lot of people said thank you because they were in the market for a company.
