We moved and redid AHS at our new location. Our dishwasher would stop in the middle of the cycle intermittently all the time and it wasn't draining. I called AHS, but the contractor showed up at my old house. I had to stop them when I called, and then they said that they could not transfer my policy. So, I had to cancel the other one and they gave me a credit. I started a new policy and the person who was signing me up was lovely and very nice. The contractor was great and they've done a lot of repairs at my old house

On the other hand, our AC went out last May. I got the claim approved by AHS and a tech from Always Heating & Cooling came, was in the house for five minutes and he was trying to put 15 gallons of Freon. He wanted to charge me a $2,250 fee. Why would I put $2,500 into a unit that is 24 years old? I was super dissatisfied with the technician and Always Heating & Cooling. We simply cancelled the whole claim and paid someone else out of pocket.

I have been with American Home Shield for two years. Last April, I bought a new house and in this house, I couldn't go online to put an order. So I called and said that I couldn’t go online. Then I told them that I wanna put in the claim for the new house. I gave them the address and information for that house and they said that they'll have somebody sent out. But then, the people got sent out to the old house. They said that I went online and submitted the application online. I told them that I can’t submit that because I don’t have access to the online application for the new house.

However, the reps at AHS told me that it was my fault so they won't reimburse me and I would have to pay the people again. Since I already made the $100 payment for them to come out, there is no way for me to get compensated for that money. So basically, I lost $100 and to me that's terrible. In closing, setting up a contract is easy, it’s fair and not hard if you have one house. But if you have two houses, that’s where things get messed up. So give it a second or a third checkup or an email confirming the address is okay.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is agonizing and very difficult. When you call, you are typically gonna spend a minimum of one hour of your time holding and then going through the process. We've done it online a couple of times too which was a better experience. But the problem is we've had AHS send out people before who simply could not diagnose or fix a particular issue and so we got in a situation where we had to talk to someone and tell them that the people they keep sending out were not working and that they'd have to find somebody different. Their representatives have been helpful though. My wife and I both have contacted them.

It would usually take AHS about four weeks to get a contractor to us. We've had issues where we got an order in and we've got notice of who would be contacting us then we won't hear anything, so we'd finally contact that company after two weeks of waiting and they'd tell us that they do not do such kind of work. Then when calling AHS, they would be like, "Oh, okay.” And so, they would try to get somebody else.

We've had a couple of good contractors. We've had a plumber in particular and he was a pretty good guy. But, most of the contractors who we ran into that are reputable, good local contractors are not the people who are working for AHS. The people that AHS get that’ll actually go through their BS are those who have to get some sort of work and so the people they do send out are not your topnotch local contractors.

We've had a couple heating and air guys, and one of them was just flat out rude to my wife. Then the last guy they sent out for getting airflow to two bedrooms was located an hour away and we've got tons of HVAC people here in Salina, Kansas, but AHS couldn't find anyone that would work with them. He was a nice guy, though, but some of the things he was telling us sounded like bogus. He tried to fix the problem, but the solutions he tried to come up kind of wasted our time. So, it's not fixed yet. We finally came to the conclusion that our duct work system just wasn’t designed very well. I don’t know how that could be because my daughter’s bedroom is almost right underneath the unit up in our attic, but somehow the people they’ve sent said they didn't see any issues.

Although there is no doubt that we've gotten value out of this home warranty as there were things that we would have had out of pocket that would have been very costly and AHS was able to step up and take care of, the issue is it better not be anything important. One time we had a sewage back up in our basement where we had toilet paper and feces backing up and it was like pulling teeth and AHS was gonna send someone out in a week type of thing. So, we just went ahead and took care of it, and dealt with AHS later. Then when I asked them on how we'd go about the reimbursement, there was a separate mail address and you have to snail mail everything to them. And in today’s technology and world, you would think you could email or fax them. There even was no phone number in particular for them to give a contact. They make it just as big of a pain in the butt to go through that process as they can.

I usually submit my claims to American Home Shield online and I find that to be easier than by phone. My most recent one was for our air-conditioning and it wasn't a great experience with the contractor. It needed Freon which he did put and now, it's repaired. However, he wasn’t really listening to what I was telling him. I was trying to stress to him that the unit wasn’t getting cold and it was as if he just wanted the $75 check and then he wanted to leave. Still, I would recommend others to get the warranty in the event that anything was to happen. AHS always responded back or tried to make sure that someone came out to do the work.

Then the contractor came in less than 48 hours. And besides the fact that we had to pay a lot for the refrigerant that wasn’t covered, everything else was fine.

We switched to AHS last year and its been a horrible experience. If you call AHS, their wait time to speak to a person runs over an hour, for the most part the person who will eventually come online either ends up having no clue what to do, or transfers you with another hour or more of wait to talk to someone or disconnects the phone. They have no intention of actually fixing things, it seems to be a scam. Their website has a chat option which is not functional. In the middle of summer our air conditioner broke down. We created a service request on July 1 and its been 20 days already without the air conditioner, after multiple hours of waiting on the phone and with no help. It's disgusting that they take the money every month but when something actually breaks down, their plan is to just avoid the customers.

My first experience using my warranty was mediocre. I had two leaky faucets. The shower was fixed on the first visit and the sink part needed to be ordered since it was an older faucet. That I totally expected. The contractor installed a part to temporarily stop the leak until he came back with the correct part. Greatly appreciated until I noticed that he caused a leak under the sink that was not there before he came. When he returned, he came back and fixed the leak under the sink but the part that was ordered for the sink was wrong. It took over one month for them to come back with the correct part. When he came, he said that he had received the part but the office never called me to schedule the install.

We've been with AHS for a number years and most of the time, they send people out that fix things on the spot. They don’t get out as quick as I would like, but they're pretty responsive. Also, they prefer to repair rather than get me a new appliance and I can understand that to an extent as it serves its purpose. There was an issue with my dishwasher and last Saturday, I filed a claim over the phone. It has worked out well but the dishwasher hasn’t been repaired yet and they’re ordering the parts. We called Tuesday and they said that they had ordered it but there was no specific day for it to come out. Overall I have recommended them to a number of people.

I had a couple of claims filed simultaneously with American Home Shield. And while they were being resolved, I had another claim, which was the latest one for an electrical work. I submitted my claims online and then I’ve done it on the phone as well, but I find that I have better experience if I do it over the phone. When I filed over the computer, I had multiple claims at one time and when I called back to ask about my claims, I spoke with a representative who said, “Oh, these didn’t have to be filed separately. Since they were appliances, you could have filed the appliances under one claim and just had the one service fee.” So, she fixed them and it saved me $150 on service fee. And I didn’t know that when I did it on online. So, that worked out better.

I’ve had really good experience with contractors except for one and that was the plumbing and that was in April. The guy came in my home. I can see his truck, so I knew he was the service contractor whom we were supposed to meet. So, he came on in and as we were discussing the problem, I asked him his name and he refused to give me his name. He was the same service guy who had been to my house on a previous claim where he had told me, “This can’t be fixed. This is not covered under your contract.” So, that was really for nothing.

And this time, he started the same thing. I asked his name and he refused to tell me his name. We had some words of disagreement because I told him, “You know, you came to my house before. You didn’t do anything. And now, here we are the same thing. I’d like to talk with my service contracting agency to see why. If it’s not covered, I don’t know why it was scheduled for you to come.” He left and I reported this to American Home Shield and asked for another contractor and they came out and they fixed it.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for several years. So, I’ve had a history with them. They replaced the dishwasher for me this week and my range was replaced the first of the month. So, I’ve had two appliances recently replaced and it was confusing to me because maybe for the first appliances that I’ve had replaced. With the stove, it was a whole different process. They sent me some e-mail that had all counts of different choices and I chose from that list and I knew what other options I had available also. And when I made the choice and I called them, I was able to make arrangements for disposal of my old appliance.

So, when I did the dishwasher, they just told me one thing, “This is what you want.” I was happy with it, so that was not a problem. And I know that I was able to receive an amount of money and she made my own choice. But, I went ahead and take the one that was offered and they told me that they could not dispose of the dishwasher. I will have to make arrangement with the company who delivered it and installed it, which I was able to do. But, it’s been weird that a couple weeks before with my range, I had all that taken care of. And they just came in and performed everything they needed to do. But, I’m very happy overall. Also, when I reported a plumbing issue, they handled it appropriately and promptly. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I recommended AHS to my son. He signed up for it and he had a problem with his air conditioning unit. The people that came out to do it said that they wouldn’t be able to get to it until a month and a half. So he felt that he wasted $500. And my two daughters each have their own homes. They were also going to get into the program of AHS but they said, "No way. Not after what happened to him.” So I was totally dissatisfied. It seemed to me that the person that got sent out figured, “I got this deal now. I’m gonna order the part and tell them I’ll be back to fix it in a month and a half, and let them sweat all summer." He’s got asthma and his son, too. His wife called AHS and they said that was all they could do. I also had an issue that was electrical in nature and was told that it was not covered. But when they came to service my air conditioner, I was happy with that.

We were having a party one weekend and we figured out that our AC was having a Freon leak. The tech from United Air, the contractor that American Home Shield sent, came out on Friday before and we couldn’t turn the air off long enough to let the ice melt which it was not a here or there, but he made an appointment to come back on a Saturday to fix it. We let the air off all day on Saturday so he would be able to work on it.

The tech called me about four o’clock and let me know that he had gotten our call and he was about to be there soon. Maybe it was my fault that I had kind of expected that he was on his way, and I called him back right about 45 minutes later. I asked him if he was en route. He told me that he had a couple of other calls and he'd call me as soon as he was headed out. That was fine with me. But then immediately, I got a call from the service manager. He essentially accused me of bugging the tech by calling him three times which I didn’t do. I said that I didn't understand and I just called him once. He also let me know that that tech was doing me a favor by coming out on a Saturday and that he didn’t follow the rules, to which I told him that that was not really my problem. My problem was I was sweating in two floors of my house because they didn’t fix the AC the first time. The guy got there at nine o’clock and he did his job and was out of there by 10 o’clock.

So, it wasn’t a great experience with United Air. And if I do ever have an HVAC issue again, I will ask American Home Shield not to send those guys out. But other than that, American Home Shield has been very responsive every time we needed something. It's funny though that we signed up for them and then all these things started falling apart. I know the guy and he was really good at what he does. He was very efficient, very clean and he got things done right away. Now, the dryer is operating perfectly.

However, there was a previous water heater claim that I was not happy with. American Home Shield was a rip off. They sent out Republic to do the repair on the water heater and they were a rip off as well. I had brand-new hoses that I wanted to be installed and the company that came out needed to use their hoses because mine weren't adequate. They wanted to charge me an additional 250 bucks to do the install along with the hoses. I ended up doing a buyout, paid for my own water heater, repairs and installation. It took a month before American Home Shield paid me for the water heater that I purchased myself. Also, I had to call them three times and they never called me back. I'm a realtor but I'll never sell an American Home Shield product again. I'm losing confidence in home warranty programs.

Overall, our experience with AHS has been satisfactory.

Contacted company on 7-3-18 regarding AC. Heard nothing from them so I called on 7-5-18, was told no vendor was available. To wait 1 to 2 more days then call back, that was a weekend. Called back on 7-10-18, was told they couldn't find anyone to cover this area. The two companies they gave me to call didn't cover this area. They also gave me the address and phone number for the company we found to send bill and get authorization for repairs.

One of the companies I called got back to me later in the day to inform me that they had called American Home Shield and let them know they didn't cover this area. AMS told them they would contact us but they never informed us. AMS also informed me that they authorized AMS to pay the $100.00 service fee. Now they are charging me the $100.00. Not until 7-12-18 did someone arrive to fix our AC. I have only been with this company since 4-23-18, this was our first claim and we were not very impressed with their service!!!

Still, when the tech came over, she did a good job. She fixed the air conditioner in a short time and it stayed fixed. When I asked her, she explained what happened to it. We have been using American Home Shield for five years now and I've always felt like I got my money’s worth out of them. So far, they have fixed the hot water heater, the dishwasher, as well as the plumbing. It's easy to file claims too. You just go online, submit a claim and then within 24 hours, somebody will call you and you just work out a time when they can come out. I've also called and I never had a problem. Also, all the service people that they use get out quickly and the problem is fixed.

Recently, the condenser fan that cools off the compressor on my air conditioner went out. Since it was the peak of the air conditioning season, it took the contractor three days to get out to fix it. It was an easy fix though. I called the contractor and told him what was wrong, so he had the part. He then came out, put the part on, and left. He fixed it the same day. Since the repair, everything is working fine. American Home Shield is a good and very reputable company. I have recommended them to my father-in-law.

But every time I try to call them to get a hold of somebody, I get put on hold for 20, 30 minutes at a time and I can't stand that anymore. Other than that, everything was good in my experience for the claim process on the clogged condensation part on my AC. I submitted the claim online and it took a couple of days before an electrician was sent out. And although it was an air conditioning problem, the electrician clarified it was a plumbing problem. So I called that same day and it took another day before A-1 Rapid Rooter came out. The contractors who came were all good people and professionals. They communicated very well and they did a good job especially in our area where it's as busy as it is for skilled labor.

I had very scary experiences with American Home Shield. When I call them to file a claim, sometimes it takes an hour just to get through and I have to wait on the phone to talk to them. But I found a way to get through them. I call Greenway, their contractor, and tell them to patch me through directly to AHS. One time, I spoke to one of the reps at AHS for a few minutes because when my sink was leaking, I thought it was my toilet bowl that was leaking. The lady I talked to wasn't very helpful. Then I had a plumber from Greenway come out for that and when he was here, I wasn't home at first. My housekeeper was there and he asked her how much money she made. She was scared of him and shaking when I got home. It was really bad.

Then he asked for baking soda and vinegar to flush down the drain. I gave that to him then I called Greenway. I told them that I needed somebody to tell the guy to get out of my house as quickly as possible. Their customer service person who answered the phone was not very kind or nice. That rep didn't care or do anything else. She put me on hold for 20 minutes, then I spoke to one person and said I would like to have a manager call me. But nobody ever called.

I also wanted somebody else to comeback because my sink was still dripping and leaking. They said that a part was ordered by the guy that was here but he didn’t finish the work. I know I threw him out in the middle but he didn’t have the equipment and said that he couldn't afford any. Still, Greenway did not send anybody else and I ended up having somebody come out in the week later after the part was ordered. I had another claim where the tech from Greenway had to order parts which took six months. They forgot to order the parts and I had to go between Greenway and American Home Shield about it. And AHS didn’t pay for for the parts.

Then, I had an issue with my AC. I called up American Home Shield and got a tech from Greenway again. I had the whole coil replaced and the air conditioning is not working properly. So, I am calling AHS back again. That repair cost me $4,000 out of pocket and American Home Shield covered a couple of hundred but that was about it. So, my experiences with them and Greenway have not been so wonderful. Again, the tech they sent was unprofessional, and again, Greenway did not do anything to rectify the matter or call me about it.

Other than that, there were a couple of contractors that have been with American Home Shield for a long time who were very good. So, if you get them, you’re lucky. I also had some that didn’t come from 12 to five and they didn’t come until eight o’clock at night. I’ve had that a lot and with them, you don't really know when somebody's gonna show up. I also had some experiences waiting for people to come and they did not come. So right now, I'm becoming more specific in asking for service and I’m working on only getting the people that I know. But sometimes, if you don’t want to get Greenway, you have to wait three weeks to get somebody else. One time, I had to wait for somebody else to repair something and it took me a week. Then, I had an ice machine that took six months to repair. But there were a couple good of guys that I know who were pretty decent. You just have to keep having people come out again and again.

AHS put the service on "recall". It's now July 19, 2018, it's been over 2-months now. What's occurred over these two months is beyond frustrating. The vendor has been unresponsive to my calls, they set up an appointment and didn't show up, and their unprofessionalism continues. AHS has no other vendors on their list for this service, I offered one local vendor.

AHS said I need to continue to wait for PoolPro to follow-through. I again requested to obtain outside services, find my own vendor and be reimbursed. AHS said they need to continue waiting for this vendor to respond and PoolPro is their only option. I asked how long AHS was willing to wait for their vendor to service my spa, 1-year or 2-years. They, in essence, said as long as it takes. AHS has poor problem-solving abilities despite their intent to provide customer service. They are not able to provide great service due to poor policies and procedures.

I have had AHS coverage on my home for many years. I have only used my coverage once prior to the issues I am currently experiencing. I contacted AHS because my A/C unit went out. Contractors from ATR General Services Heating-Cooling & Home Improvement in Alexandria, VA were sent to my home on 6/12/18, 6/19/18, 6/23/18, 7/2/18, and today 7/19/18 they will be coming again. Each time one contractor would "diagnose" the problem then two days later another would come to fix the problem which the "fix" would only last about a week. I have been without steady working a/c in my home for over a month now and I live in Maryland where the temperatures have reach 100 degrees.

The a/c unit is 16 years old and needs to be replaced!!! Enough is enough with the patchwork!!! I requested another company come to diagnose the unit and I was told by AHS that the original company had to come back out first because it had been past 7 days since the initial diagnosis before I could have another company come out. So that's more days without a/c in my home!!! What kind of sense does that make?! It's clear the ATR is incompetent or trying to rip AHS or me off!!! My second issue with AHS is my hot water heater also went out and the contractor All Clear Plumbing & Drain in Laurel, MD upcharged me by over $1000 just to replace the hot water heater.

And All Clear when they came out they did not drain the tank so the water continued to leak for days!!! Of course AHS will only cover the water heater and I requested the cash out value which I was told would take 24 hrs. I call back the next day and another representative tells me that it takes 3-5 business days!!! Your reps need to give accurate and complete information to long standing, loyal, paying customers!!! Now I am without a/c and a hot water heater and AHS has done nothing about it!!! I would not recommend AHS to anyone!!! AHS takes your money and you get very little to nothing in return.

Updated on 07/20/2018: The level of incompetence between AHS and ATR Heating and Air Conditioning is UNBELIEVABLE!!! A month has passed and my A/C unit is STILL not functioning properly!!! A service person from ATR came to my home yesterday to diagnose the problem AGAIN and another service person comes 30 minutes later, almost walking directly into my home without me answering the door, with parts in hand looking for the other service person that had already left! INCOMPETENT!

Then I find out ATR did not put in the service request until last night and AHS has not approved the repair so another day has passed and my unit is still not repaired. It is now the weekend so if it is not approved today I won't be able to get an appointment until next week! I am losing time at work and using my leave to be home waiting around for ATR for them not to fix my a/c unit. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! Stop with the patchwork of my 16 year old unit... REPLACE IT!!! THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! I was told today by AHS that a supervisor would be contacting me, which has not happened and it is now after 4 pm! I have made premium payments to AHS for over 5 years and have only used them once and this is the service that a long-standing paying customer receives?!

The problem that we had on our AC was pretty much the same thing that had been going on for the past four years and it finally got fixed. Each time, they said I was low on the refrigerant. It seemed to me that everybody just came and hooked up the little thing to check if it was low. Last year we paid for a sealant and we filled up a pipe. And then the person that came out prior to Tim said that there was a leak. There was no way it was a leak since we just filled the leak last year. I took it upon myself to get another estimate before I filed the claim to AHS. Then, they sent Tim’s Heating and Cooling and the tech wanted to do the same thing that had been done for the past three years. I told him to check the HVAC system that’s inside of the house and he was kind enough to go check. He found out it was the coil and it had been messed up for the past three years and I’d been spending $300 every year for that. He was great and he explained everything.

However, I need an invoice for my repairs that I also filed a claim with at American Home Shield. I was told that I can go online to get an invoice but I can’t. I’ve called AHS and requested this invoice, and it’s gonna be a month and I still haven’t gotten it. I called again to request the invoice because I need it for my homeowners insurance. The rep told me it would take me 24 to 48 days before I could get it. Other than that, I’ve had AHS for 11 years and they have always taken care of everything. I’ve always recommended them to other people.

My air conditioner and water heater went out within the same 24 hours. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the Air Doctor came for the air conditioner. They were very good. I had a clog in the drain and there was a flood that went into the hole and through the walls. They came quickly knowing there was water around and I’m in a high-rise building. They changed some of the piping in the air conditioner so it was worthy for the visit. They checked everything and all was working fine.

As for the water heater, I had to pay to replace it. The techs couldn’t get a new one quickly enough but since I would be in the hospital the next day and I needed a water heater to take a shower for preop, their people came and took a picture of the water heater to ascertain what was wrong as they saw it was all rusted and water was coming out of it. Through my building, they sent a plumber with a water heater and it was done within that day. They put in the unit which was a bigger one than what I had but I didn’t care at that point. I just said that I needed whatever he could get for me. They gave me the wholesale price of replacing what I had so it was fair.

The people American Home Shield sent were good. They came when they said they were going to come and because the AHS representative had to find one that was willing to come quickly and he did, there was no problem. Although the contractor wasn’t always their first choice, it worked out. The men came out and I could get reimbursed for whatever I could be reimbursed for. All in all, AHS was great because they did what I needed them to do and it was what I hoped they could do when I took the policy. If you ever need something, wanna sleep well, and have somebody that you can rely on, get AHS. But their tough to get to on weekends and everything seems to happen on a Saturday night. Still, I’m gonna renew my policy again in November.

I'm not happy with American Home Shield at all. We have a dishwasher that makes dirty dishes instead of clean ones, and I've heard all manners of nonsense about what's wrong with it. The guy that came out said, "You need to clean your filter," but he's cleaned the filter five times. He got angry the last time and I said, "Why would I suddenly need to be cleaning the filter when you've just done it? I'm running two or three loads a week and I'm putting in clean dishes and getting out dirty. So it's nothing that I'm doing, it's something that the appliance is doing."

I asked American Shield not to send that particular vendor out again, so they sent another one who came out last week. This guy postulated that it's because I have hard water and it's causing the dishes to get dirty. I said, "The water's not gonna be harder than it's been for the 15 years we've lived here. Why don't you fill the glass from the tap and take a look at it and see what you think?" The bottom line is I don't have a dishwasher that works and I have been treated like crap by American Home Shield. Every time I call, they don't want to talk to me because my husband's name is on the policy, even though he told them 5,000 times to talk to me because he has cancer and he doesn't wanna deal with appliance companies. What they're gonna do is annoy me to death. They think that I'll end up buying a new dishwasher which will fix the problem but I can refuse to.

The other day I had to hold for AHS for quite sometime and then a guy actually hung up on me 'cause he didn't like that I didn't like what he said. And the wait time to get them back was half an hour. Anything we've had to have fixed has required multiple calls, trips and hassles. A couple of years ago, we just gave up and bought something new 'cause I was tired of it. In terms of how many calls to come out and fix something, that is recommendable. They're also handier for my other houses because I don't have to go there. But I'm very dissatisfied and I would only recommend them to somebody I didn't like. And when my dishwasher is done, I'm canceling them and getting another appliance company.

I had a problem with their office when they were charging me $195 for a pallet jack. It's a jack they use to pull up the air conditioner. I owned an automobile shop before and I never charged a customer when they used the engine hoist to swap out an engine. So, I felt that their charge was a little stupid. American Home Shield said they were covering it, but then I still had to pay it.

I had bought a dishwasher on Scratch and Dent but the plumbing wasn’t plumbed right for the dishwasher. So I needed to have it re-plumbed. American Home Shield scheduled a plumber. I had had that contractor for a previous American Home Shield warranty service on my shower and I specifically requested him to come out. So I was glad he came out.

But then American Home Shield told him that he couldn't do the service. They wanted to have a plumber do the plumbing then have a separate contractor do the dishwasher when the plumber could have done both. Then American Home Shield told him that the service never should have been approved because nothing was broken. So there was a big fiasco. When I submitted the claim, the lady kept saying that I had a plumbing leak and I kept telling her that I didn't have a leak. I told her that the plumbing was hardlined for the dishwasher when it was supposed to have an end cap that goes to a flexible hose. So I needed to have the plumbing recapped so I could put in the flexible hose.

I ended up telling the plumber that since they do the plumbing and installation of appliances on their own, to go ahead and do the work then I would pay for the service fees. But afterwards, American Home Shield kept wanting to charge me for services that were not rendered. I refused to pay the $75 service fee for that ‘cause the visit never should’ve been scheduled. I had to fight tooth and nail about paying that service fee. Also, I kept getting emails three months later about the appliance installer. American Home Shield kept wanting to send him out and to charge me for the service after the request was cancelled. So American Home Shield is piss-poor on the business management and on their scheduling, and I refused to renew with them. I’m going to a competitor that I was referred to that’s cheaper and does a better job.

The AC downstairs stopped working and it was very easy to submit a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor was great, he did what he had to do and he was able to fix the AC quickly. Since then, it has been working perfectly. American Home Shield was great and I would recommend them.

American Home Shield needs to do away with the automated call and make it go to a person instead. When you call, you get asked, "Is this a claim?" or "Are you trying to get something fixed?" When you say, "Yes," you get asked what and then for example you say, "Air condition," the automated service tries to link you to somebody. That doesn't always work out well because a lot of the companies don't work on the kind of AC unit that I owned. So I called about my AC that was blowing hot and the rep was fine once I got to him.

The AC wasn't fixed at one time and it took four times to get it fixed. I get Cutting Edge Total Comfort every time and I've been home every time they fix it, except once. And I talk to them like they're people and I hold a conversation with them while they're working. The same guy worked on the AC before but maybe he was having a bad day. On the third time, they sent the supervisor out and he looked at it. He said that the Freon was low again. So I said, "Well, if I'm low on Freon, we got another problem." And then it iced up on me, so they came back and fixed it the next day. Now, it's 71 degrees in my house at all times. Overall, American Home Shield does what they're supposed to do, so I'm happy with them.

One time, I had a problem with the rep of AHS. He couldn’t speak very good English and I couldn’t understand him but their customer service has always been very good. Also, the company that I had with my AC issue was the best air conditioning company. I called their company that morning after I called American Home Shield and they were able to get me that afternoon and get me up and running so I was extremely happy. Also, the service guy that came out was old school like myself and he made sure it was done that day. He had the head motor on the truck and I was just surprised with that. He didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need. He was very cordial and was exceptional too. The AC is working good since the repair.

There was something wrong with my range, and AHS sent out the contractor and he fixed the part. But it still wasn’t working, and I called up and he said that he needed a different part. They said they would call when the part came in, and that was two more weeks that I didn’t have a working oven. And then he came back and said it was working, and he didn’t put a new part in. He had a part to put in and that was what I was waiting for, and he never put it in, and he left.

I got insurance so that I would be taken care of, but that’s not the way that AHS works. I wasn’t really happy with the fact that when I called them and said I needed a new stove because the one I have is old and it's breaking down. But they just kept putting parts in until they run out of resources. Whereas the last company that I had, my disposal had broke, and the guy came out, and he said there was no way of fixing it, and they replaced it right away. They didn’t replace it with the one I had, but they replaced it. So different strokes for different companies.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for the garbage disposal. It was leaking lots of water. Every time I would turn it on and even though I’ve used it and haven’t turn it on, it still was leaking water. That was when we called them to file a claim. It was easier to do it online. It was quick than calling somebody because the first time I called and it was for a plumbing issue, it took a little while. But for the first one, they scheduled really quick as well. So far, we’ve been having a good luck using them for two small things that had already been done in the house.

When the contractor got there he looked at the garbage disposal and he knew what it was right away. He did mention that whatever we had was one-third of a horsepower so he said, “Well, I can upgrade it to one horsepower or half of the horsepower for $50 extra.” Plus the $75 that we had to pay them. I don’t use it that much but I don’t wanna call in a month and have the appliance replaced again so I said, “Okay, go ahead and do it.” Everything is working fine since the repair. We only have been with AHS for about two months but so far, so good.

He came and took care of the problem in a very short time and it was great. He was very nice, professional and neat. He showed us the part and we talked to him a bit. He said that this problem was not unusual. He had the part and he replaced it and the AC has been working fine since. My experience with American Home Shield has been fine all the way around and I would recommend them. I’m really happy. It’s our third year being with them and we've used them twice.

My AC unit upstairs went down for the second time. The first time it did, I paid to put antifreeze in it because that was what they told me I needed. It was working fine last year but when I tried to run it again this year, it wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield but when I saw that they were dispatching the company I had used in another house that I live in not too long ago, I called them back and told them that I didn't want that company as they were horrible. So they sent me a different company.

This time, the AC wasn’t cooling again and all the antifreeze leaked out. It was hot as hell. The AC downstairs was working and I had to go and invest in industrial fans. I put one at the end of the stairs so that it can blow upstairs and then put another one in the hallway so that the air can circle up upstairs into everybody’s room and then we bought little fans for everybody’s room. I had to demand the guy to figure out what was the problem. I have two units and I made sure that they looked at both of them. I would have had to pay $300 just for antifreeze if I listened to him. I had to direct him on what needed to be done and he found out the problem was the cooling cord.

American Home Shield never called me back to tell me what was going on. When I finally called them, I could barely understand the person I was talking to. She has an accent. She kept on saying that it was denied and I didn’t get what she was talking about. She finally had to dispatch over to a supervisor and I was told that they don’t cover the coil. It was crazy. I wound up paying somebody else $65 just to get a second opinion to make sure that I wasn’t getting ripped off. The contractor fixed it today and I paid $640.

American Home Shield used to be a really good company when they first started but they have just gotten really bad. This is like my second or third time giving them a try and I'm not going forward with them anymore. Sometimes it’s good, and sometimes it’s bad. I’m gonna look further into another company. I probably would still recommend American Home Shield but I would be more detailed so that the person knows exactly what they cover. Even though they give you this little handout of what they cover, most of the people don’t even know what that is.

I have been having ongoing issues over the past year with by HVAC unit. It first started with the heat not working. Advance Appliance came out to address the issue. First the thermostat was replaced then I had to have the circuit replace. Fast forward a few months later and another service fee. The AC part was not working. They advised that there was a leak somewhere but did not investigate. They advised that because of the leak I needed Freon. My unit takes R22 which unknown to me was not covered by AHS. So on top of the service fee I had to pay for the Freon. The unit worked for the warmer months. Now comes time for the heat to be turned on. To my surprise it does not work. Again I call AHS and again another service fee is charged to have Edwards Heating and Air come out.

The technician that comes out advises that the unit needs to be cleaned, but does not clean it but attempts to upsell a program his company has. He also advised that there was too much Freon in the system stating that the other company overcharged it. So what does he do? Take the freon out and leaves the unit dirty. Fast forward another few months and now again it is time for the AC to be turned on and to my surprise it is pushing out warm air. By this point I have had it with AHS and the companies they send out so I hire someone else and pay out of pocket. After a good cleaning, capacitors replaced, and contacts replaced guess what it needs? Freon! Based on the trusted technician one of the two companies equipment was not working correctly to gauge the Freon levels and after cleaning the unit one of the two companies damaged the coils of the unit.

I contact AHS to request that both technicians returned to fix this problem but they advise they can only send one. Base on this I attempt to compromise and agree to have one come out but the catch, they wanted me to pay yet another service fee. They advised that I could get in direct contact with the company myself for any issues. I am not paying another service fee to AHS to fix a problem their contractors created so I directly contact Edward's Heating and Air since they were the last to service the unit. Edward's is no longer under contract with AHS and will not come out. I was advised that I need to contact AHS to resolve the issue. I contact AHS again, and they advised they are no longer liable since they are not contracting out to Edward's. That is complete BS but still attempting to settle this without lawyers I hang up and call Advance Appliance.

They advised that they could come out but could not guarantee Freon wouldn't be charged and advised that they needed a service call from AHS. I again contact AHS and advised that Advance Appliance said they would come out but needed a service call from them. AHS advised that a service fee would be charged. AHS was not helpful at all to resolve this issue. When I asked on multiple occasions to speak with a supervisor I was denied stating that there was nothing they could do. I have been a customer with AHS for two years and in my opinion two years too long. The next contact AHS will have from me will be by my lawyers.

As warm weather began in Louisiana at the end of March we discovered our air conditioner was not working. AHS dispatched Total Air Care. We paid the $125.00 service fee. We were told the unit was low on Freon and the charge would be an additional $250.00. We understand the AHS only pays $10.00 per pound for Freon so we understood. However, my husband specifically asked about a leak and was told there was no leak. Sometimes units just get low on Freon. The unit worked slightly better but continued to get worse as the weeks passed so we called again in June. AHS again dispatches Total Air Care on June 30. We pay another $125.00 service fee. They tell us the Freon is fine, tinker with it, replace a few minor parts and declare it fixed.

Within days the air conditioner blows only hot air. It is a holiday weekend with the 4th of July, so AHS can't get Total Air Care back until Monday, July 9. Technician states we are low on Freon. My husband insists he find the leak since it was just filled with Freon. Technician reluctantly investigates and declares the evaporator coil is leaking and will need to be replaced. Says he will order the part. We wait until Friday and begin calling Total Air Care. They will not return our calls. Called AHS on Monday, July 16. They will look into the matter and have an answer for us by 5:00 pm. We finally receive word on Tuesday, July 18 the AHS has given Total Air Care permission to order the part. However, they can not find an evaporator coil for our unit so they will have to order a different model and we will have to pay $375.00 to modify our unit so the new evaporator coil will fit!!

In addition, they can not give us an estimate of when the part will come in! I actually asked if they could give me a guess. Two days, two weeks, or two months? The AHS representative told me that she had no idea, we would just have to wait. I asked her how long it was acceptable for us to go without air conditioning? We have been without a properly working unit for 4 months. The heat index is currently 107 degrees. In addition to our monthly premiums we have paid an additional 500.00 out of pocket with the service fees and Freon and will be required to pay another $375.00 for the modifications. I was simply told they have no control over how long it takes to get a part in and I would just have to wait. I have had an AHS warranty for 9 years. This is not the service I expected. I feel like the money I spent on monthly premiums was a complete waste.

We purchased a house, got home warranty. Had a plumbing problem and locks that needed to be rekeyed. Contractor never contacted me to schedule appt, called AHS. Complained. Thought problem was resolved. Customer service credited me back on both cases, for my trouble and aggravation, and redispatched "only locksmith in area under AHS contract". And a different plumber. That plumber made appt and was on time. Resolved issue. Locksmith never made any attempt to contact me. Contacted customer service again. Wanted to speak with supervisor, got nothing but runaround. After 3 days of making phone calls to customer disservice finally got a "supervisor" on the phone.

An agreement was reached for me to get a licensed locksmith of my choosing and pay for the service and AHS would reimburse me. That was first part of May. Is now middle of July. Still no reimbursement, on top of which I received a bill for the plumber. I have made 9 phone calls to AHS to get this resolved, with no results, I have waited on the phone for over an hour waiting for supervisor, and have requested multiple times to have a supervisor contact me. Still no results. Apparently this home warranty contract isn't worth the paper it is written on.

I highly do not recommend customer to waste their money on any of American Home Shield's product. The customer service rep do not submit correct orders to their contractors; very unprofessional contractors especially City Plumbing located in Clovis, CA. Save your money and do not buy AHS warranty. AHS customer service are receptive when they are selling the insurance to you however when you try to use the insurance you run into roadblocks. The major roadblock I've encountered is AHS does not submit correct or complete work orders to their contractors. The contractors will come out to the house and only complete what's on their work order.

I have been dealing with AHS since March 2018 to get my plumbing fixed. The contractor messed up a working sink. The sink does not work at all and is missing parts. The contractor ordered parts and had these parts delivered to my house. AHS has no record of these parts being ordered. When you try to call the plumber; they have no recollection of the ordering these parts and continue to put you off by saying, "The contractor will contact you." Obviously I didn't order the parts; I have no idea what parts to order. The contractor has been piece mailing the parts to the house since March of 2018. Totally unprofessional. During the meantime, I now have an un-working sink in the main bathroom of my house. Call AHS the contractor weekly for an update and yet there is no record of any my conversation.

American Home Shield is perfect. I filed a claim for my washing machine recently because it was leaking water from underneath. And when I called, I got a call back immediately and I had a repairman come out the next day. It was fast to do it on the phone. And sometimes I just prefer the one-on-one as opposed to online, because I know that I’ve spoken to a human being and I like that there’s somebody there that I can reach out to as opposed to, “Did they get that email or didn’t they?”

I’ve used AHS on several different things, but the only thing that I really questioned about this one is that I didn’t usually have to call the contractor first but I ended up doing that because I didn’t hear from them. I called the contractor and they said, “Oh, yeah. We got your message. Can we set an appointment?” I was like, “Okay.” Usually they call me immediately to do that. But it was okay. We set the appointment and he was there promptly. And he called me to let me know and he was great. He was there when he said he would be.

I like the fact that they’re always there for me. And we recently had a friend who passed away and his granddaughter moved in his house. She is a girl and she doesn’t know how to fix a lot of things. I talked to her about it and told her that she needed to get AHS so that when she did have a repair, she doesn’t have to worry, that somebody will always be there.

American Home Shield sent RAM Heating and AC. The interaction I had with them was fine. But the problem was not fixed. They were supposed to fix the faucet and it was working when they left, but a week later, it was not working. It was only one side that wasn't working. Now both sides are not working. I haven't called AHS because I have to stay on hold for so long that I dread calling them. And I don't have time to be on the phone. The last time I submitted a claim I did it online because if I wouldn't have done it online, then it wouldn't have been done at all.

My daughter was picking out her college and it took us about 55 minutes to get to that college from our home and I was on hold the entire time. And when they finally came on the phone, it was right when we got to the University. And then I had to be in a rush, trying to tell them to hurry up what I needed, because we were there to the University and I was too busy holding and trying to explain to them. It's really unacceptable.

I also called AHS for my vacuum, for my central vac system. And they told me that with the issues that I was having they don't cover like the hose part of it, like the head part of that thing was broken. The seals on the holes in the wall are not there so it doesn't have good suction because of those seals. They told me that they weren't sure if that was covered or if it wasn't. And then they never got back with me.

And with the toilet I could tell that it was leaking because of the ceiling under it. They came and told me that there was a crack in the base or something like that and that they don't cover that. And even now, the faucet that is covered is still not fixed. And with my vacuum and toilet they are still not done because it's still like that and my toilet is still that way. My husband keeps telling me that I need to discontinue. But I am satisfied. They did cover one thing at the very beginning, which was my refrigerator. I recommended American Home Shield to two people and they got it.

American Home Shield has been really good. They listen to issues and are right on top of getting me help. They keep me on hold while they reach out to the repair company and make all the arrangements. Most of the contractors that I've dealt with were pretty good and I usually can get somebody out here within the next day. They've been out several times to fix my appliances like my stove, water heater and washing machine. They've fixed whatever they thought the problem was with the appliances.

The only issue that I have so far is my air conditioner. It was repaired a month ago, and then having it repaired again. But that's on the technician that came out so I'm not having to pay another service fee. They couldn't get anybody out here today to get it fixed so they gave me the opportunity to call my own technician out to get it fixed. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anybody to come out before next week because everybody's booked up. Also, I was really hesitant and uncomfortable to pay the cost upfront and then bill AHS an invoice because one of the repair people that I talked to said that if I don't send them the invoice the way they want it, they won't pay me back. So, if the air conditioning company doesn't fill out the invoice right and break down the charges as labor, cost, repairs, American Home Shield won't reimburse me.

So, I chose not to go that route although I'm without air until Tuesday and went back through AHS to schedule somebody to come out. It's not convenient and it would be nice if they have emergency services on hand, like somebody that they could call on in an emergency to come out and fix whatever that needs to be fixed. Nevertheless, I always refer AHS and tell others that they're really good. I've even asked my mom to get them.

I called American Home Shield for an AC that was not cooling. It is an old unit and is undersized for the home it was installed in. The rep who I spoke with was positive as far as data collection. And then they turned it over to a contractor who came out to the house. The repair person determined that the unit was working, but it was not enough to cool the house down. I've had good interactions with him as he was able to communicate the problem.

However, if the unit isn't cooling down adequately because of age, it's like a death battle 'cause it's not working as it did in the first 10 years of life. It's on its 40% downsize, and it's not running to capacity. It's my burden because I bought the house not as is. There was a home warranty, but it didn't repair or resolve the home issue. So there was a missing link between what is classified as working or repaired versus working and capable of what the intended service should be. There was a confusion as to what is covered and what is not. People should understand what is within the scope of repair versus replace, and understand that they may have a unit that functions, works, outputs cool air when it comes to the furnace, but that doesn’t mean that AHS would replace it if it's an inadequate system.

The only complaint I have is that the technician who came out didn't really diagnose the problem correctly. After he gave his diagnosis and sent me the new AC, American Home Shield denied the claim because they said it was damaged due to preferred damage. I went out to the breaker box, switched on some breakers and the unit came on so it was really the breaker box. I didn't appreciate the technician not going outside to the breaker box at the time he was here to see if it was a circuit. We didn't get any service for the $125 that we paid. I couldn't re-open the claim and get someone to come out and put Freon in it since they said it passed the time but I wish I could. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 16 years and for a while, the customer service was bad in terms of getting the help that I needed. I was having issues with my stovetop. I needed one that had a downdraft and I wanted one with coils, but I couldn't get one that had a downdraft with coils. The technician from the company that was sent out said that AHS will get in touch with me and that there's nothing the company can do for us. I told them that I'm glad I called because I would have never known this cause nobody has contacted me. The person from American Home Shield walked me through all my options, and I thought I was gonna have to pay extra to have a stovetop come in and she told me what they were gonna pay and gonna do and I'll get the whole stovetop so it was great. I'm satisfied.

In the past, though, American Home Shield has had its ups and downs with us on our air conditioning unit. We had a rough time getting it fixed properly and I don't know if it were the shady contractors that came in and didn't want to spend the money and they were trying to get as much as they could from American Home Shield. But finally, when they came out to fix it, that was taken care of. AHS had also sent people to fix my garbage disposal and my water heater and things were good.

Other than that, you're gonna be dissatisfied with the wait time to get to talk to somebody. It's a long time when you have to wait for 30 minutes to get a callback and if you don't have somebody that's skilled and being able to listen and then resolve the problem, you don't want to keep on getting passed on to the next person, and then ask to wait again for almost 30 minutes to talk to the person. That's pretty aggravating back then. But AHS is trying to fix whatever deficiencies they're having right now, and a good thing is that whatever problems they got, they're trying to fix them to keep their customers.

I filed online a claim in regards to my water bill being high and water leakage. I looked for one of the drop-down menus, so filing the claim was easy, but usually, I go over the phone when submitting claims. Then I called in because of my water bill. I wanted them to figure it out. They sent someone out and I tried to make sure that they took care of it. If not, I’d call back to get it taken care of because I’m tired of paying for it.

The contractors came out and checked my toilets to see why my water bill was so high. The issue was the tap. I know they go bad and I don't have a problem with that, but the frequency is the problem. I've called people out three times and it shouldn’t be going bad that fast. When the contractors come, I usually let them in, take them to the problem, tell them what’s going on, then they’ll tell me what’s wrong and if the issue is covered. If it is, they’ll fix it and if they have to order parts, they’ll order the part and come back when they have it. I'm very satisfied. I like American Home Shield and would recommend them.

The air conditioner in my father's house stopped blowing cold air because it was freezing up outside. So I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. The thing is, whenever I file a claim for my parents, they call my parents directly when they make appointments and stuff so I don't get to talk to anybody directly after I made the claim. But the company AHS sent out did a good job. They had to come out three times to fix the issue. The second time they came out was because of the initial reason. The unit froze up again so they changed some things out. Then, the third time they came out, it was a for a different issue but it was still part of the same claim. They fixed it and ever since then the unit has been fine.

There’s a sewer ejector pump in my basement and it was leaking a little bit. There’s also a sump pump for a wet bar sink down there and that was making way too much noise. I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. Then the contractor, His and Hers Plumbing, called me. I scheduled with them, they came out and the gentleman explained everything to me. He was pretty down to earth and was able to explain everything pretty easily. He got to work and cleared away very quickly. He fixed the leak and said the sink was working as intended. It looked a little wet though and I checked with a paper towel. The repair was good but it needs to be double checked because it looks like there’s moisture.

I’ve had two claims so far with AHS and to get warranty work done, I’m paying a $75 fee upfront. So I’ve already spent $500 on the yearly plan, but then to have someone out, I’m paying $75 upfront regardless of what needs to be done. But AHS saved me a lot of money. If something breaks, I’m afraid of how much it’s gonna cost. It’s always in my head and it’s quadruple with the numbers. With American Home Shield, it’s “Okay I’m having issues, I’m just gonna call someone.” It takes the stress out of having to have repairs made and not knowing what it’s gonna cost me. I’m gonna keep renewing every year.

Since we moved into the new house, I've had to reach out to American Home Shield a few times about some claims and they've been pretty good. Their guys are very prompt and professional in getting things sent to contractors, though there's less quality control in making sure that it's the right contractor for the job. The hardest claim we had was some hiccups over a bathtub claim. The Whirlpool bathtub was complicated because the plumbers were not equipped to deal with the motors and jets. At some cases, AHS sent pool men types, and the pool men weren't well-equipped to get into the house or a second story bathtub that required a ladder for access. That one was a little bit tough 'cause there wasn't a natural home for it, but I would think that Whirlpool bathtubs would be a fairly regular component of one of the houses that they cover.

The repair work wasn't done and I didn't get a great answer as to what the repair would have been, but we took a cash out option and chose to replace the tub rather than repairing it. My only other gripe is I have a trash compactor in the house, which I understand either is not covered under the new home purchase plans or I need to add coverage for it, which I did not and now it's too late. I had issues with it and I am not covered, so, I'm paying that out of pocket directly with a contractor that AHS sent out for an oven issue. I wish I would have known and I wish there was a way to have coverage for the trash compactor in the future. In general, American Home Shield is very good. Though sometimes they have a cumbersome claim resolution process, they have good customer service.

My refrigerator got noisy, so I called and a technician came to make a report. No action was taken. Refrigerator is now really noisy, and conversation is not possible in the kitchen, so I called again. Technician came out, said he made a report, and no action was taken. I called the company just now and they say they don't have the latest report, which is odd. But I did find out some good info on the phone: AHS will not take action unless the refrigerator actually stops cooling, so the noise that I'm reporting is not really relevant.

I wish that I knew this before, as a technician visit is $75. The contract does say that action will be taken if there is a "mechanical issue". In my mind the noise indicates a... well, mechanical issue, but as I said above, the company has a different idea which means that I need to get an old fashioned cooler ready to store food when the fridge actually stops working. Since I was ignorant of this fine point, I thought I would point it here to help other folks understand.

While reviewing my bank account I noticed that AHS had taken the deductible out of my checking account anyway. I called them and although the customer service agent (Jay) & his supervisor (Jeremy) could see that they had charged me all they would say is it will take 14-21 days to review & the money would be sent back to my account. All this after I had told them, several times, we are moving in a week, the account is being closed.

This company is so tied to its computerized structure & scripts that they cannot comprehend the human element. I had to explain MULTIPLE times that I am closing my in a week. I really preferred to have the refund before that time, but apparently they are incapable of that. If they cannot give me my refund in a timely manner then I need a check mailed. And, I kept hearing it will go back into my account. I'm hoping they finally get it right. However, because it is obvious that they follow a script & rely on their computers I'm not confident anyone will see their "note" to send a check. They should not have taken the money in the first place & then it takes a month to refund their error?? Ridiculous!! I only gave their customer service people 2 stars because they were polite & maintained their composure.

I'm a retired service member living on a fixed income so making sound financial decisions is a must. I have a 30yr old Air Conditioning system in my home that was working as well as a unit that old could work in the summers of Southern Ga... (just barely). I contacted my home warranty company, American Home Shield and was assigned a service request. After paying for the service call up front, the tech said I needed a new compressor and that I would have to pay for the refrigerant $680 (out of pocket), which I did. After the tech returned with a supervisor it was determined that it was uneconomically sound to put a new compressor in such an old unit and that a necessary replace of the entire unit had to be done. The new unit came pre-charged with refrigerant at no additional cost. So wouldn't you think that I was due a refund of $680 for the unused refrigerant? Not according to American Home Shield.

After questioning American Home Shield, I was referred back to the service tech Southern Comfort HVAC, Inc. I was then told that the $680 was used to cover the cost of modifications not cover in the contract. Ok, this was not a modification. It's what my warranty refers to as a "necessary replacement", which is covered. Isn't it a coincidence that the cost of the "Uncovered Modifications" are the same as the unused refrigerant?? And if it was a modification, who made the decision that it was ok to use my money as they saw fit without contacting me first??? At that point I should have been asked if I wanted to proceed. A call was made to request $680 for refrigerant, why not a call to find out whether or not if I wanted to pursue this further?

After going over my contract and talking with several American Shield reps who pointed out exceptions that didn't apply, I'm left holding the bag for a $680 which American Home Shield should have covered. And to add insult to injury, I've been what I thought was a valued costumer for over 20yrs. So if you have American Home Shield Home Warranty don't wait to get ripped off... Get rid of it!!! If this is how you treat your long term customers, why should anyone become a new one?? So, the morale of the story is... If you want a reliable home warranty company > "STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD"!!!

The dryer wasn't drained so the cycle would shut off halfway through. And because it takes too long on the phone and I can never get through, I submitted the claim online. The American Home Shield rep scheduled the appointment and the ABM tech came out. I had a pleasant interaction with him. He came in and I asked him to take his shoes off and he did. He took the dryer apart, assessed it and told me what he needed. He said there was a problem with the pulley and the belt broke because the dryer didn't go completely around. So the dryer would start and just stay there. He ordered the part and said to give him a couple of days and then he came back and put the part in.

However, the initial repair with ABM didn't go well. The unit continued to spin but then after a couple of days, we noticed that the dryer wasn't cooling or heating up 100%. The dryer was still doing what it was doing but ABM said I had to call in another time because their tech said the dryer was fine when he left. Their tech said that there was nothing they could do and I didn’t have time to argue. So I rescheduled another appointment with American Home Shield and I had another contractor, A1, come out. It was another $75 but A1 worked on the dryer and switched out some coils on it and now the dryer seems to be working fine. American Home Shield did what they're supposed to do.

I had a good experience with American Home Shield when I had them years ago. But I also had a bad experience and that was what prompted me to leave. But I figured I'd give them another try and I came back recently. I had submitted a claim for my built-in microwave combination oven over the phone and AHS had sent four different technicians to come and fix it. The second and the fourth contractors already recommended a replacement and yet, a fifth company called asking when they could come up and check the appliance. I was like, “Who are you?” American Home Shield didn’t even call and tell me anything.

I decided to give AHS a call because, at that point, four technicians could not figure it out. I was not about to let a fifth and a sixth one come out. When was the limit? Were they gonna replace it or fix it? Were they sending somebody that specializes only on this appliance? I asked them what was the protocol and the rep couldn’t answer me. Then she rep went, “Let me read the notes.” She said she just got the report from the last guy and it said “for replacement”. So they’re going to go ahead with that and contact me between 24 and 48 hours.

I also wasn’t satisfied with the third contractor who came out. He didn’t install the oven back to its original state and said that he needed somebody to help him get it in. And he went, "If anything goes wrong, then give me a call in two weeks and I'll come back and put it back on like perfect." The microwave was working when he left but roughly a week later, it started messing up again. So I called him but nobody answered. I decided to call AHS and have them send that contractor out or somebody else. AHS decided to send somebody else. I'm not a very happy customer at this time. But those things aside, my interactions with the representative when I filed the claim and with the contractors were good.

I called American Home Shield because of my pool pump. They dispatched someone who came out and said that he couldn’t access the pump to fix it. The gentleman was 60 to 65 so I told AHS that maybe because of his age, he didn't wanna try to climb down underneath the equipment to be able to access it. I also asked AHS to send someone else but they wouldn't send anybody out. AHS denied the claim saying they didn't have to pay for it if they couldn't access it. They also gave me 70 bucks for what they believed the part would cost. I was very disappointed with that but it was the fall of the year and I let it ride.

In the spring, I called a totally separate entity, not going through American Home Shield, for them to come, look, assess, and to find out how much it was gonna cost me to replace the pump. This guy from the independent company said that the gentleman who came over was lying about not being able to access the pump and he also said that all the past gentleman has to do is unhook something in the pump and the whole thing pulls forward. So with that, I called AHS back and I told them what happened. They agreed to open up a new ticket for the techs to come out and fix the pump, although I still had to pay another 70 bucks for them to come out to do that.

I had a similar experience with AHS trying to come to fix an air conditioning unit, which at this point, I plan to call an independent company to see if they can access the space for the part to see if this is the same kind of scenario. I also had a dryer go out. The techs came, fixed it and that was fine. Regarding the pool pump, AHS dispatched another company and the plumbers from that company were excellent. They assessed the pump, ordered the part and came back to fix it. The repair took a week to finish. I'm not canceling the warranty simply because the house is at a point where I'll still need the warranty, but I'm just a little iffy. I would recommend them to others but I would recommend them with cautions of that kind of thing.

Both are good, but it depends on what is going on. I had different experiences with different contractors. Some of them are generally good, although there was one lady that I didn’t like. She sent somebody here and they couldn’t find where the tenant was. They called back to let them come back so I can show her where it is, but she wasn’t nice.

It is the industry standard whereby they give us two to four hours of waiting time, which generally nobody likes. But so far, so good. However, an issue was not fixed and I reported it then AHS sent somebody else and they charged me for that. I didn't like that. I tried to get them to understand that if the issue was corrected initially, then the follow-up cost wouldn’t have happened. And it took them time before they reversed the charge. Their reps were really polite and told me that they’d get it taken care of and that the contractor will be calling me shortly and they did. A field representative was sent and he took a look at the sump pump, then came back the next day to replace it. He was very knowledgeable about everything that was going on. I felt bad for him though because he had to crawl on his belly to get through my crawl space. But he had everything he needed to crawl through the crawl space. Since the repair, the sump pump is working and a lot quieter as well. Before, it would come on and I could hear it throughout almost my whole house.

I've been with a couple of different home warranties. They would sign me up for something, then they send their representative down and they would tell me that this isn't covered. They would say that if I want something on the policy, I would have to add this much more to my premium. It’s ridiculous. On the other hand, everything has been what AHS has said so far. Their service call fees are still a little high though. Their service calls are $100 and their premium is a little higher than what my mom is paying on the warranty for her house. So I said it wouldn't take their guy very long to verify the issue.

The next day, the fellow called me. Then he came out, took a look at the unit and said the issue was exactly what my neighbor had said. He ordered the part and it was ready two days later. But while he was there, he also said that the circuit board in the blower motor upstairs was freezing up. He disconnected that, took the motor out and hardwired it right into the unit. So that actually got the unit back up and functioning until we were able to get the part put in. The technician was very good at what he was doing and everything seems to be fine now. I was pleased with the service provider and their service. They kept their appointment and they gave me 30 minutes notice before they were gonna be there. I've had warranties with American Home Shield for years and I would be perfectly happy with them.

The ice maker stopped working so I did an online claim for it. A couple of days later, I got a message from American Home Shield saying that Chesapeake Home Appliance Services will contact me within 24 hours and they did. The contractor was a very professional and nice guy. He knew exactly what was wrong with the ice maker. He told me that once the part came in for the refrigerator, he would come back and install it. I was also getting a water filter and he said that he would show me how to flush the lime when I put my water filter in. He was very helpful and since the repair, the ice maker is working perfectly.

But recently, Delmarva Plumbing LLC was supposed to do plumbing work on my house. I put my request on Friday or Saturday and when they called, I had already gotten someone to look at the problem and I told them I didn't need their help anymore. Other than that, I’ve had American Home Shield for a few years now and they’ve always done a good job as far as getting me a contractor to take care of my situation.

We have been purchasing dry ice at our own expense, experienced food loss, and now on 7/16 we are told that AHS needs a few days to decide if they will replace or buy out the refrigerator. So more dry ice, and more food loss, we will need to rent a refrigerator, and they said that none of which will be covered by their policy... Let me say this... When you buy a warranty from Sears, they cover food loss and rental until it is repaired. This is really poor service.

I called in a request on 7/15/18 and it is the end of the day of 7/16/18 and it still states "Pending Assignment." I have a baby in the house! So I guess we will have to go to a motel, another added expense, on top of their service call fee of $75.00. I called them today and they said that it was in the hands of the "dispatch department" so, I ask for the number to call the dispatch dept. and they "conveniently" do not have that number (imagine that). We have had them for three years and it is the same thing every time. Really, the only complaint (so far) is the slow turn around on their request for service.

So, instead of a missed half day and a fixed dryer, I lost an entire day of work and nothing is fixed. They wanted to reschedule for Friday which I could not do, so I called to reschedule the appointment. Their computer system was down so they took all my information and said they would call back. They didn’t call to reschedule but instead called Friday morning saying they were 5 minutes away for an appointment that was never made. I called back Monday to reschedule and they can’t get here until mid afternoon Thursday. So, I can take off another entire day from work. Quite honestly I’d find a local handyman you can count on to show up. Very dissatisfied with the entire experience.

Last year I needed a furnace repair. The first person they sent out said it's amazing my home hadn't blown up, since the furnace and 2 fireplaces had the same exit chimney (quote ~12k), the second said I'd need to install a side wall vent for the furnace (quote ~5k). I accepted the buy out for the repair of $250 (note that it cost $100 for their people to come out and they wanted to charge me for each). I hired a local furnace repair person, who pointed out that if you step outside there are clearly 3 flues coming up from the chimney, total repair $140, blown fuse. So I actually came out $10 ahead, but only because luckily what was wrong wasn't even close to what their idiot repair people said.

The experience was so bad that when I had a problem this year I didn't call them, so I realized I needed to cancel this service. When you call to cancel it disconnects you, and no one ever responded to my emails to their customer service email asking to cancel. Eventually I cancelled my credit card. They kept sending me emails that I was past due so I stayed on the phone for hours today figuring out how to get through (each person puts you on hold for 40 minutes). The cancel number is 800-858-1922 (finally got it from someone when I selected to update my credit card). They're trying to charge me a past due month + cancellation fee of $42. I'm attempting to dispute it but they refuse to escalate my call and said they don't care since I cancelled my account. Shame on realtors that would refer people to them.

I have had AHS for almost 3 years, I first received it when I purchased my home. Last year I used it when my garbage disposal broke, I had someone come out immediately, paid my $75, had it fixed several days later. I can't recall if I paid anything more but if I did, it must have been minimal since I don't remember. Just a week ago my water heater broke, I filed the claim on Sunday and thankfully someone was here by Monday morning to fix my water heater. The guy sat in his truck for about 30 minutes, came back with an estimate of $750 which is what I'd have to pay out of pocket, because they had to make "modifications". Fine. He also offered to call a water restoration company since my walls were likely wet, and so were the floors, he said it would just be a free estimate, so I said okay. The water restoration company came out and stated that the walls were extremely wet and they'd have to pull out shelves and my wet bar etc.

I work for an insurance company so I decided to file my claim before making any decisions on the restoration and drying. The plumber heard this and was very rude, and immediately said "well if you don't dry out your walls, that could cause a problem as the new water heater is leaning and could fall through". He went on to rant about how he wouldn't be liable, however I wish he would have mentioned this before saying I'd pay $750 out of pocket, and before he installed the new water heater!!!

He was very annoyed with us at this point, and he had to come back the next day, so I was afraid that he'd do something to break my water heater again. I have been on hold with AHS to tell them what kind of service they sent to my home. The next day I had ServPro come out to my home, the walls and floors were wet, yes, but they didn't have to tear anything off of my walls. Some companies are just out to get your money, and Blue Star Plumbing must receive some referral fee from American Water Damage, which explains why they'd be so annoyed with me and threaten that they wouldn't be liable. I can't believe AHS would send some garbage company out to their customers.

Companies don't want to work for them because they cap the calls at $160 so if the repair is larger than that they just tell you it's not covered. When you call into customer support they tell you the same thing. What a ripoff, so disappointing. You're purchasing a new home and feel this is a great benefit when in all reality it's just another $500-$800 added to your closing cost for ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT. Save your money

We have a bunch of rental properties and we have American Home Shield on all of them. We’ve used the warranty quite a bit and I have normally submitted my claims online. The only time I call is whenever I have a repeat call out which I had to do for an AC claim. American Home Shield sent Total Air Care and they let our renter, with a newborn baby, stay a month without air conditioning. That contractor had been called out to one of my places before and they did well. On the second one, they had to repeat their visit but on this third one, they misdiagnosed the issue completely. We've since asked that they not be allowed to come anymore. There were waiting a month to order a compressor and a bunch of things that we didn’t need and never got. We ended up having to call and pay for a different company out, and it turned out that the wires were loose and the unit just needed a cleaning.

Also, when my sister called AHS to see if we could have somebody else sent out, they told her that they couldn’t send anybody else out unless we were suing them. But I called a couple of days later and found out that was not true. We can request to have somebody called back out or a different company called out. I was also told that my air conditioner wasn't working because it flooded three years ago but it has been working ever since. But AHS has been pretty helpful with everything else. I’ve even recommended them to a friend.

The toilet wasn’t flushing properly and I thought there was float valve issue. Initially, when I submitted the claim, I wanted to go with a company I've used before, but AHS sent somebody else. The vendor said they can only come during morning hours. I told them that 95% of people work during those hours so I can't be there. They said either I take it or leave it, which was disappointing. I said okay and called AHS. I was able to get the company I wanted, which was Inner City Plumbing. The technician was really friendly, professional, courteous and was quick. He was in and out of there in 30 minutes. The toilet is a little bit older but so far so good since the repair. I couldn’t ask for a better experience.

I've been with AHS for roughly 7 years and for the most part, they have been good. The one I had before was really good too, but they retired and went out of business. Generally, AHS has a 24 to 36-hour turnaround time in getting someone out. But if they are really busy then it might take 72 hours. In the future, I would like to cut the middleman out and go directly to the third party because I don’t know how it works with AHS. Sometimes they give you the worst possible vendor at first, and when you make a complaint about who you want, things happen that way. Issues with contractors are few and far between. About three years ago, an air conditioning tech was trying to sell me a bunch of stuff I don’t need. I called AHS and said that the tech was corrupt. But 85% of the time, I've had good experiences.

I'm retired and I love sitting out by the lake, so I can just call American Home Shield to submit claims. I give them my account number and they'd take care of my issue. I have been pleased with their level of professionalism and if things proceed as they are going so far, I will renew my contract. It takes so much stress off of me because I live in Louisiana and I can't find a cheaper company.

You think you'll find professional people off of Home Advisor and some other website, but you will learn if they get to your house. I paid a guy to come to my house and he looked at my washer and told me he couldn't fix it. He didn't go into it and he can't fix it, but he charged me $90. Another repair person came out about the washer. He wouldn't even go in there and touch it and he said he can't fix it. That has been my problem. They say they can do this and they can do that. On the website with these different organizations such as Home Advisor and Thumbtack.com, they're not professionals at all. I can't find anybody who says they can do what they do or are supposed to do, so I went to American Home Shield.

Last month, Dial One came out for the ice maker on my refrigerator and the tech was very professional. He came in and told me it was broken and he will order another. They called me the following week and said the part was in. He came out and put it in. The contractors were out yesterday afternoon doing some electrical work and one of the problems could not be taken care of because the contractor said it was an appliance call, not electrical. I have a light under my range. One will come on and one will not and he said I had to contact appliance for that.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. The two service calls I've had took a world of stress off me because I don't have to try to find somebody. We can't find anybody. The guy who came for the washer and dryer told me that the drum was gone and that it would be best to get another washer, which I could understand, but he told me to not go with Samsung or LG. I have a Consumer Reports Buying Guide and those were the two they recommended, so I wasn't paying any attention to what he was saying.

Then we had another air conditioner guy out and he said we needed a plumber. The plumber came and said it was fixed, but it was not, and said we needed an air conditioning guy. We spent $250 and the problem is still there. We've been doing this for about four months now. It's been such a pain that I haven't bothered calling American Home Shield back.

I tried to submit the claim online and we let them know that that contractor didn't fix the problem. If I try to go online, it automatically signs me up for that same contractor to come back and I ended up waiting on hold for 30 minutes calling them to get them to change the contractor. My husband and I have considered dropping the plan completely, but we bought an older home and we risk needing to replace a $12,000 air conditioning. It's something that we've been debating whether it's worth to continue with their service or not.

Some of the contractors sent out by AHS are great, however, they're not fixing the problem. One of them was not good and he didn't seem very qualified. He was only here for a couple of minutes. But the others that we've had have been really good. Their communication with assistance is good too. The repair is a small problem that's going to be a large problem because the back of the line of our air conditioning is flowing steadily off of our roof on to the ground, so that's going to cost some water damage on the roof and inside of our house. We're in Texas and it's hot. The condensation from the air conditioning normally drips some anyway, but it shouldn't be using the back of the line. But when we had a few things taken care of for our pool, AHS did a good job.

We had a refrigerator that was covered under American Home Shield. The inside of the freezer frosted up and the refrigerator side got too warm. I submitted the claim through the website and if I didn’t hear or see anything, I would call back and I'd wait. However, if you call in, you tend to wait on the phone for a long time. But their reps were pretty good and they responded by email. You have their full attention when they're there. AHS sent somebody out that replaced some parts and two weeks later, the refrigerator stopped again. We called back and this time, they sent a different contractor. It was Sears and they replaced some more parts. Three weeks later, we had it again.

This went on about four times and they kept replacing parts until we finally got to the point where we had done this on and off for several months. It seemed every time we went shopping, the refrigerator would go bad again. It began to get a little frustrating when it would happen every three weeks and it was different parts until we basically went through all the parts you can change, and it was still failing. It got to the point where the technician came out and said that the refrigerator needs to be replaced. That’s what AHS did and it went well at that point. They sent us a check within the two-week timeframe like they said they would. We agreed and we went out and purchased a refrigerator. We had it delivered and hooked up, everything is copacetic and it's working. I just have to send the one-year warranty back to them to complete the process and we should be good to go.

The contractors were all excellent. They were prompt and courteous, and they seemed to know what they were doing. The one thing we tended to go through was that they would come out and diagnose it and then they would order parts, and then it would be another week to 10 days before the new parts would come back. I wish there was some way, knowing it's a refrigerator for example, that they would have some parts on the truck. The warranty is a very good thing to have to cover all of your appliances and your equipment in your house, especially if you just buy a house and you don’t know how long these things will last. Sure enough, something will go bad. I would recommend American Home Shield.

This is our first go at homeowning so the fact that we didn’t have air conditioning and it was back to normal since the repair is fantastic.

I had an issue with my air conditioning unit. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I preferred to do it by phone because I can get my order taken care of quicker and they understand me and I could get it done. The contractor was Fast Response. They came out and they took care of the problem. They were nice, sweet and they tried to make sure I’m comfortable. But I had to call a second time because the AC was doing the same thing. When it got real hot, the thermostat went all the way back up. Fast Response came back out Tuesday. They put a compressor in and they came back out and cleaned it. But when it gets up to 90, the thermostat goes right back up to 80. It’s just running. The unit is old and they tried to work with it. Nevertheless, I like Home Shield and we recommend them to anybody.

I asked him if it his summer job and he said it was his regular job. He couldn't do the repair the same day because the AC unit had frozen and it took 24 hours to unfreeze. And so he came back the next day and installed the Freon. They got the job done in a reasonable amount of time.

I had an issue with my AC and American Home Shield sent a technician to take care of it. I've had these people before and the service was excellent. Everything I've ever done with AHS has been spot on. I've never had a complaint. They've put two air conditioning in. I've also had washers, dryers and dishwashers fixed. If you got a problem they're there.

The contractors are prompt. They call and give you a time if they're gonna come within a couple of hours. They call 30 minutes prior. They are always right on time. If they said they'll be there in 30 minutes, you can set your watch. They don't give a time frame like between 8:00 and 4:00 and something like that. It's a two hour window, which is about as high as you're gonna get. If they run into a problem they'll call you and say, "Hey, we're gonna be a little bit late." They're extremely professional.

We're at 95 degrees and we are basking but as long as the house is cool, everything is great. I've been with AHS for 12 years and I wouldn't be with them this long if they haven't given the service that they said they would and their service has always been excellent. They've been extremely responsive. Immediately they sent me a text or an email that said they got this claim that has been submitted and they tell you who the people are that are coming and a phone number of that person. I've had several different service providers come out on different issues and they've always been fine. AHS is extremely well run. I have recommended them to a couple people. A couple of people have taken them.

A lot of times when you had these home or car warranties the first thing they start to do is look at the loopholes to get out of it. AHS doesn't. They know if there is something you haven't done to maintain your system like with the air conditioner. If somebody didn't and they use the system or abuse the system of American Home Shield then they would not honor the claim. We've had some major problems and the contractors called American Home Shield to get permission to do the replacement or repair. If it's major right then and there they will do it. There's no wait.

It was super easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. I filed one online for my air conditioning unit on the first floor. They got me in touch with one of their approved AC people, B&B HVAC. It's locally owned and a small operation with about two employees. Since I work part time, they were able to easily schedule the time frame to come out, but it took them a couple of days to get to my house which I understood. They've been very friendly and good to work with. Everything was outside and the tech didn't even need to be in my house, so that was pretty easy. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

We had three different electrical issues that I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. One was when a part of the doorbell wasn’t working on one side of the house and on the other side too. We also had one of our garage door openers intermittently working. And something was wrong with the track that sometimes it goes up and sometimes it wouldn’t. We couldn’t put it up at all. The very first claim I ever did was over the phone. But I did these claims online and navigating through their website was simple. However, the contractor took a couple weeks to come. And one of the longest ones that we had was with our appliances and the contractor never showed up. AHS closed out the claim but they didn’t know that the contractor did not show up. So, they ended up reassigning the claim to a different contractor.

We’ve had several different contractors who came and most of them have been pretty pleasant. We only had one plumbing guy that was really bad, rude and just degrading my wife. I called the company and complained to the manager. It has been resolved and we handled that with the contractor themselves. That aside, it’s nice to have the coverage but you have to read the fine print. So far, everything’s doing fine but we still have a couple of things that are waiting to be addressed because of the technicality.

American Home Shield’s service has been good over the 15 years I’ve been with them. One time, I submitted a claim for the valve that releases the water to go out to the tank. I called and they told me they’ll send somebody out. Mr. Rooter came out and the valve was dead so they put in a new one. After about three days, it stuck and the contractor came back. Then after another four days, it stuck again. After they put in a new one, the water wouldn't come up. So, the next time it was flushed it wouldn't flush because the water wouldn't fill up in the tank.

When I called back AHS for the second repair, they said there was no charge because they didn’t get the repair straight. We called back the third time and there was no charge again. The contractor came out on the first of the month, the middle of the month, and then at the end of the month, it was three times in June and it has come with the same thing. But the contractor that American Home Shield sent out talked to me through it the whole time and they were very courteous.

I filed a garbage disposal that wasn’t working and a water heater that wouldn't stay lit as one claim to American Home Shield. The first contractor lit the pilot light which I've been lighting for a week and replaced the garbage disposal and was done real quick. I asked him if he fixed the pilot light and he said he lit it. I told him that was not the problem. The problem was it wouldn't stay lit. He went out and checked it and of course, it was already out. He said there was a bit of rust on the outside so they'd just replace it. I said okay but he said they'd charge me to do that. So, it was gonna be $545 to cut some PVC pipes and replace them.

The second plumber was the guy that came to install the water heater. He went and looked at it and he said, "Hey, why are you replacing this?" I said, "I don't know. The guy said there was some rust on it and that it needed to be replaced." He said, "I can't replace this water heater. It's still working and there are no leaks. American Home Shield won't replace it." He was great and we kept the cost. This is the second time I've had this company out and they've given me the runaround. When I first bought the house, I had them come out and see why my shower was leaking. The guy didn’t even look at it. I paid $75 for the guy to come out, peek his head in and say, "Just ** the shower."

I've had AHS for four years now so I can't be too dissatisfied with them because I would have left. But there were a few things that I had to replace out of my pocket because they were not covered. My experience with AHS wasn’t bad. I just don’t agree with some of the stuff they try to charge me with. To me, when you have to replace something, everything that goes in with it is part of the cost.

It's pretty good with American Home Shield but sometimes it takes a while to get an appointment. And not everybody at American Home Shield knows what the contracts are. I got three different opinions every time I called for a claim and that was frustrating. I had to wait for days. The water heater was leaking over the weekend and I thought that was an emergency but they didn't take care of it until the following week. I had to keep calling. I would recommend that anybody answering the phone to really know what’s on the contract and how to read it.

Also, they’ll say they cover something and they don’t. It says if the plumbing is not done right, they would fix it. But they won't fix everything. They don't cover the bladder that the water heater needs and they don't cover the piping to the water heater whenever you change that with different sizes. I had to pay for stuff that I thought would be covered. If they have to replace something, they can't replace just the one item. Everything is connected and it didn't make sense to me that they wouldn't cover something I had to have in order to put the hot water heater in. Also, I needed a vent and they wouldn’t fix that, so I had to pay for that. I’ve had three or four different plumbers here for different things since I got the home. I wish there were more details on what’s covered when you go to buy it. Other than that, I’m glad I have them because I’ve used them quite a bit.

At random times, I would have light bulbs popping throughout my house even though we have replaced them a month or two ago. Then I saw that I was covered by American Home Shield for electrical. I submit claims with AHS online. I thought I would contact and see what I can get as far as knowledge as part of what was happening or if there was an actual issue in the home. The first individual who was scheduled to come out accepted the job. I received a text message from AHS saying that I'll be contacted within the next 24 business hours. Three and a half days went by and I hadn’t received any phone call from anybody.

So I went online to my profile there with AHS and it showed that the contractor requested that I contact him. So I called and a week and a half went by, several voicemails were left, I never received a callback. I finally ended up getting a hold of the individual who stated he never received any of my information and he wouldn't be able to get out to me for another two weeks. So I contacted AHS again and tried to figure out what the issue was. They sent another company that they dealt with from my area to come and see the home. That company came out and I was a little put-off as they didn’t check anything. As soon as the contractor walked in my door, he said, "Oh, it's because you're receiving too many volts. You gotta contact the power company."

He and his partner were getting ready to leave and that was all that they did. I asked him how could he know that without checking anything. Then he said that it is because he has done this for 18 years now so he knows. He proceeded to walk out the door and I told him that he could have told me that over the phone. I asked why I was gonna be charged $75 for him just to walk through my threshold. Then he took his volt meter and put the prongs inside an electrical outlet of mine and told me that I was receiving 127 volts right now. He also said that it would spike to 132 volts and that regular light bulbs can’t take that. He and his partner turned around and walked away. As they were walking away, they suggested I buy LED volts for my house and that was the end of it.

I ended up calling the power company and they told me that there's no regulation that they can put. There are new transformers up but as far as what my house is allowing in, there's no meter as far as a regulator that they can do. They said they would come out but whether or not that they did come, I wouldn't know, since I work odd hours so no one would be home early afternoon till about nine o'clock at night.

Despite that, I'm very impressed with AHS. We had a home warranty in our previous home in another state and I had a bad taste in my mouth with home warranties. When we purchased this home, I was told it was required for the first year to have a home warranty company. So my wife and I started looking online. We found AHS and they have changed my mind and my opinion on home warranties. I've had a fantastic experience with them.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years in California and they were really good. I just moved here in South Carolina and have had them here since April. We submit claims over the phone and have had excellent experience with them. However, speaking to them has been a bit of a hassle. Sometimes, I get their automated system, but it’s not always giving me the options that I want. It’s a little too general. So, I’ll hang on and push whatever buttons I have to, and I’ll hang on for sometimes a long period of time to speak with a real person. When I was in California, the wait time was around 10 minutes but it hasn’t been bad since I’ve moved here.

AHS has more clout with their subcontractors than the average person would. Usually, I have to wait two weeks to get somebody out. But they get someone out right away which is really a quick response. And for the extended period of time, I’ve always found their subcontractors to be great. AHS sent out a guy recently to repair our garage door opener that stopped working, and he did a great job. He came out on time and he called about half an hour before. He was really thorough and he checked everything and replaced the parts that weren’t working. He was absolutely excellent.

One of our vents had water dripping from it a little every now and then, so I put a service request through my American Home Shield account online. It was easy navigating through the website. An electrician took around two days to get back to me and when he came in, I told him what the problem was. Then he went and looked at a couple of things. He went to my attic as well to look up there and to get the overview of the whole system. And then, he told me he'd go out to check the air conditioner outside.

He also told me about the refrigerant stuff he had to put in and he even spoke of tips and pointers to think of the next couple of years as far as getting a brand-new air conditioner, since they're gonna charge me $75 a hit every single time. Unbeknownst to myself, the consumer gets the EPA with that particular refrigerant RF221 at the list of "Don't use anymore" and I gotta pay out of my pocket quite a bit to get that recharged. He said to think about it in the near future. The unit is still with cold air and it's great. I have my issues with how the plan works, but what AHS had in place as far as reaching out to somebody for the unit to get fixed is good. However, I've had some problems in the past with getting people to come out for other things.

When I first bought the home, it was the first time I've ever had a home warranty plan for a home that I have purchased. I've bought out homes before and the one I had in Nebraska was two years older than this one and that house was built in '78. For the most part, most of the things in the house were solid, but there were some things that my husband and I discovered after the fact that probably weren't done properly, so we had to call and get people to fix it with money out of our pocket. I moved here and the people selling the home were throwing in the home warranty thing, which I thought was a little unusual and they had something to hide kind of thing. And it turns out there's some shady thing.

But when I got American Home Shield, I've been really disappointed since the beginning. There's always a catch with something. When I have a claim that says that it should be covered under the payment plan, but in the fine print, I find out that it's not covered, so the frustrating part is how they limit things in the plan itself.

I really needed an electrician to come out to repair something or at least look at it and tell me what was going on with it. As a matter of fact, I got tired of waiting and I canceled one company. It took them too long to get back to me. AHS got someone else. The guy who came was awesome, but as it turned out, the issue was just a circuit breaker that was damaged. But still, it could have been a major problem had he not come in to fix it. However, that circuit breaker part was not covered in my plan at all. I'm fortunate that it wasn't anything crazy where it was just ways I had to call and ask to have them define what these words mean in the plan, so I knew what to expect. So, I asked them to define what is hardwiring. To me, hardwiring includes the panel itself and everything that goes out from it. It could be an outlet or whatever it is and that's how I consider it. But that's not what American Home Shield considers that part.

I was lucky with an extension as it turned out to repair. But those little things with every incident, I don't call on American Home Shield all the time, just when I really need somebody to come out and check out things. My husband passed away last year, so I kept relying on handy home men to fix things for me. For me, as a consumer, I still think that some business entities need be better with the consumer, but they're not. I pay 500 bucks a year for it. But on top of that, every single time I have to call somebody, that's another 75 bucks I gotta fork out of my pocket. And when that person gets out to my house to check what they gotta check out to get the chance again, it may cost nothing or it may cost a lot. That's where money enters. I wonder, "Why do I have a home warranty, then?"

A coupling on my pipe under my driveway became loose and caused all kinds of damages, and American Home Shield denied the claim that we filed for it. They said they were not responsible for that, and that there has to be some cause such as an earthquake or if a large truck ran over that area and caused damages. We had to get a plumber and then a mason to come out and repair the cement damage, and it wasn't an easy thing for us to do because we had to make so many personal calls and then ended up paying all the people who came out to fix the damage. We just got a bill for the cement people who came out, and they charged us $800 to repair the cement around where the coupling broke. And there will be more people who will charge us more for whatever damage that has been done.

We've had a policy with American Home Shield for a long time and we've had some other claims with them where they've done a good job in coming out promptly, allowing the repairs to be made, and paying the vendor who came out to do it. So, there are some good things and some things that I disagree with. But that's the nature with insurance. I'm dissatisfied that AHS didn't take the responsibility of handling the broken coupling. They said it was normal wear and tear which could have been, but it also could've been some earthquake in the area or some ground settling that took place naturally. I would love to have had the coupling fixed.

I also talked to the ranch manager who handles most of the claims, and she said it's very difficult sometimes to call in, and you have to wait for a long time before you get somebody to answer the phone. And that is something that she can get a little bit perturbed about, but it's just a matter of how many people AHS has on the phone at any given time that respond to that.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, which I usually do over the phone, and the experience was fine. Their reps have always been very helpful, always Johnny-on-the-spot in getting things done. The repairman was nice. He told me that the dishwasher was working fine and it needed a very good cleaning. He told me to buy some cleaning fluids from a local store to clean it out. And then he would send me a cap for the Jet-Dry thing because the cap was broken, but I never received it. So far, I’ve cleaned it. It’s not running like brand-new but it’s better. I've been with American Home Shield for four years now and I’ve had three or four things that I’ve had to have fixed. I’ve always had somebody come out and they get it fixed right away. If they couldn’t, they’d order a part, come back, and take care of it.

I made an appointment online on AHS' website for my filter that started to leak. The guy came out and he did the one thing that I made a comment on when I sent back some information. He never told me what was going on. So, I had to call to find out and he said that he was ordering a part. It was a small thing, but he should’ve kept me up-to-date. Still, they came in and did the simple repair.

Another claim I had was for a gas leak. I called American Home Shield and the guy I talked to said that it was not covered, but they could send somebody out to look at it. So, he scheduled something, but the pool company never came back. I talked to the guy again and he said that the gas line that was under the ground comes back up with the pool heater and it leaks at both ends. I said that it appears that it's not covered. But then the rep said that if it’s exclusive to the pool equipment, it’s absolutely covered and they would send somebody out to get the thing underway.

The technician came out, 75 bucks got paid and took some pictures, then he walked out the door. They called American Home Shield and said that the claim is denied. The particular pool contractor knew that it wasn’t covered and he had already made the determination before he got there. He didn’t even examine where he took the picture. So, he got 75 bucks for doing virtually nothing. The consumers don’t have a choice of which contractor to pick, but it is still on us, the consumer, to evaluate and deal with them. Still, I was very pleased with American Home Shield and they couldn't have done any better in that situation. They responded quickly and the guy I talked to was professional too. I’m really impressed with their model. They've been very professional and they’re staying in business, so they’re going the right way.

American Home Shield's website was pretty easy to use when I submitted my claim for my air conditioner. It was leaking in the basement where the whole unit is, not the compressor fan thing but the other part of it and it wasn’t cooling as much. The contractor who came out didn’t get to our house until about 8 o’clock at night which was not a bad thing as I didn’t get home until about that time. My husband stays at home but it was also nice that I could be there for it too.

The contractor was very polite and he made sure to let us know what was going on. We were about two pounds short of Freon which wouldn’t be covered under American Home Shield. He would be willing to add it to what our bill was with them, which was the $75 which we paid in advance and he did that. So, that was nice, as he just charged us the cost of the Freon. Now, the air conditioning is cooling better but we’ve also had less humidity, so it could be combination of things. But the leak is better.

I've had pretty decent experiences with American Home Shield and I would recommend that they put the water heater, when it goes out, on the list of emergency situations. While I understand that not being able to take a shower is not necessarily life-threatening, but when you're dealing with it for a week, it’s more than just an inconvenience. I had service on the same water heater two times in less than six months. Since it was two days after the three-month guarantee, American Home Shield didn’t charge us for the second service which was great. It was a smart decision to have American Home Shield and I’ve recommended them to my sister and to a friend who both owns a house and to anybody who tells me they are buying a house.

I submitted an AC claim online with AHS and their website was perfect. The contractor came within 24 hours and found out that it was with the connection with the wires that made the AC stop to work. The guy changed the wire and the AC worked for half a day and then the system went off. There were four connections and they would change one, but the other one would disconnect, and the problem kept on happening repeatedly and we couldn't tell why. They came Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but then they couldn’t come on the weekend and this is a hot summer. I told them that if they took care of the AC properly in the beginning, they wouldn't have to fix it until Monday. So, they should send someone out on Saturday, even if they had to take overtime because it was their fault. But I had to wait until Monday which I wasn’t happy about.

On the other hand, the guy who came out was very helpful and took care of the problem. He simply changed the whole power box and it seems to work now. So, it must have been the box and not the wires because the wires kept on snapping at different times. I had also spoken to Donna from AHS and she replied on time. I just bought the place, so the warranty has been useful so far and I’m perfectly happy with AHS.

When my fridge was leaking, I called American Home Shield and they opened a claim. However the contractor they referred me to said they didn’t have any appointment until after 10 days from the day I called. I called AHS about it and they referred me to another contractor. Their technician showed up immediately. I told him briefly what was going on with the fridge and he went straight to the point. He told me that it was not a big leak and he would take a couple of hours to fix it. But it took him less than that to fix it and it's working so far.

However, I had a bad experience with AHS at the beginning. My realtor recommended buying an insurance from American Home Shield for the appliances when I purchased the house. A few months after, the washer was broke and it was making a noise. I called AHS and paid $75 for it. However, the claim was declined and I found it out when I call AHS to find out what was going on. According to the guy who did the investigation, he checked the washer. It was overloaded and it was not gonna be covered under the warranty. I emailed my realtor and she got it done. I was contacted by one of AHS' reps and they apologized to me. They sent another contractor that checked my washer. I bought a new one and they paid me for it and even reimbursed me the deductible. I was happy with their service and I renewed my contract with them. American Home Shield made things right and I am satisfied.

After several days, they assigned me another company. The second company called and told me they didn’t have any appointments available and to call AHS for another company. I started a chat session with AHS and was never assigned another company. I received no service from AHS, but they charged me for a service call I never received. I asked about cancellation and filed a complaint with BBB.

They also tried to charge my credit card two additional times for service calls that never happened. After three weeks without having an AC in Georgia heat, I hired a company to check my AC. The issue was diagnosed as a leak. Yesterday (7/13/18), I received a letter from AHS stating that I canceled and they are not responsible for my home. Meanwhile, they charged my credit card on 6/19/18 for another month of service. Stay far away from this company if you need actual repairs! I will be seeking legal action for the repair that should be repaired by AHS. If possible, I would rate AHS zero stars.

This is the third time I’m gonna have somebody come out and look at my AC because the temperature’s set at 70˚ and it is 78˚ in here. The first contractor AHS sent was kind of okay. He charged me for the Freon but it makes me mad that he didn’t bother to fix the leak in the first place. Then he told me that having American Home Shield or any type of home warranty wouldn’t really matter because if I have to get a replacement by the HVAC, they said that they would not replace it. Then I was like, “Oh, what’s the point of having it? Ain’t that why people get it?”

On the other hand, the next guy that came out was good. The motor thing had to be replaced and the technician said that I needed a temperature board. But when he came back, he said, “Oh no, you don’t need it because the temperature is right.” Last week it started up again and the AC has been that way all week where it’s not cooling and it’s 80˚. I called the people that did the service and they told me I had to call American Home Shield and do a recall so that I would not get charged another service fee.

Communicating with AHS has been pretty good, other than the fact that I keep having these technicians having to come out here. Last year I had to pay for Freon myself. It was leaking Freon and the guy didn’t fix it. Then when I got American Home Shield, they fixed the leak of the Freon, but then the motor went out and now I’m still having issues. AHS is pretty quick to respond to my issue, except for today. Normally, when I made a request, I get a phone call within an hour. Now they’re telling me it’s gonna be 24 hours. For the most part, the warranty is pretty good. It’s just a matter of getting the right contractor.

I made a claim for an electrical concern to American Home Shield but they didn't give me time to tell them. I talked into a recording and if I could not explain myself, I was thinking how they would know. When the contractor got here, I had to tell the man that I had problems with turning on the microwave and the coffee pot at the same time and the breaker would go off. But he couldn't do anything because he wasn't in there. So, he took it back to the company and told me they would get in touch with me. Then they sent me a letter and told me they didn't do that work. So, that type of work, the wiring and stuff, there was not that much wiring to do because I didn’t get it done. All I needed was a couple of breakers and I got it taken care of.

I decided I didn't need the warranty because there’s no need for me to pay 49.99, and then 75 when they got here over a matter of time and not getting the proper services I thought I deserve. When I needed them to get out here and open up a socket, clip off something, put it back on and it was okay but that wasn’t the only problem that I had, I didn’t get a chance to explain. But the customer service was very good and the people were very nice, courteous, knowledgeable in business, did their work and went on their business. I had the service and they did a good job for me but in that particular case, I kept waiting and waiting and I could never get anything from them. When I first joined AHS, everything was different but I would still tell people to go and look it up like I did. Partially, I had a pretty good experience but not what I expected. A microwave would cost between $250 and $300 but the motors to fix mine cost almost $300 and yet American Home Shield decided to fix it. And of course, it had taken the contractor a week to get out there and then they ordered the motors. But when they installed the motors, that didn’t fix the microwave. So I had to set up another appointment a week from that and the contractor turned up again. They said that the oven needed some other parts so they ordered those and I had to wait again. When those parts got there, the contractor installed them but again, that didn’t fix the microwave.

So I called back and the contractor came back out there again, checked some more stuff and ordered some more parts. Another week went by and those parts came in. The contractor put them in and fixed the oven that time. It’s working now but all together, those parts were $1,000. AHS could’ve bought about three new ovens for the price they spent. Plus I had to do without the microwave for an extended two weeks. The people had to come out three times and it wasn’t the same person each time. That experience wasn’t too good but my experience with the hot water tank was even worse.

Our water tank is out in the garage and it started leaking. When they do that, you have to replace them. So I called AHS to set up an appointment and it was a week before the contractor could come out but the tank wasn’t leaking bad enough. We just didn’t have hot water. When the contractor came out and looked at the tank, all of a sudden, our water heater needed all this other stuff to be redone, including plumbing and electrical. The contractor wanted to charge at least 700 dollars other than what AHS was gonna pay.

So I called a plumber that I knew and asked him about it. He came down, looked at it and said that everything was to code. The person that AHS chose to send out was just trying to gather money for nothing. I wouldn’t use him anymore and he left without fixing the it because he had to order the parts. In comparison, the other guy didn’t need anything to do the work and he did it without charging 700 dollars. I called AHS and had them do one of those deals where they pay me the money they would’ve paid that vendor and then I pay the person I had to use.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a little less than a year and those were the only times we've had to use the warranty. Filing claims over the phone is not that hard but a lot of times, there’s a long wait of 30 minutes to an hour. AHS also needs to screen their contractors better or maybe they don’t have enough because it takes a long time to schedule an appointment sometimes. Still, the warranty is good and it’s worth what I got it for. That was how I got my hot water heater and my microwave fixed. I would still recommend American Home Shield. The warranty is a good thing for the average homeowner who doesn’t know how to fix stuff or who to call. It’s good to have somebody that you know you can depend on to come in and fix stuff when something comes us.

She was just plain out rude. A couple of times I've called AHS, I've gotten someone with a very thick Indian accent. It was a language barrier thing because I couldn't understand them and they couldn't understand me so they could not understand my situation.

After I spoke to Nadia, I had to wait for the contractor to come out again, not fix the problem and do a call and get another rep and explain what's been going with Doctor Cool for AHS to send somebody else out. Doctor Cool had been out to my house six times for the same problem and the problem wasn't getting fixed. Also, they have requested money out of my pocket. They left me without air in a 117 degrees weather for days in a week at a time.

The prior visit with Doctor Cool, they had put in a compressor and after they completed that job, they did not bolt down the unit back to the building. Also, the compressor was not an issue and it was something else. I explained to Doctor Cool that the last contractor they sent out didn't bolt down my system. That morning, they ran out while I was at work and went in for my room then bolted it down and I caught it all on camera. On the other hand, the last AHS rep I spoke to, I told her my issues and she's very sympathetic. She called her supervisor and they were able to get Control Comfort out. We've been pleased with American Home Shield and each experience that we've had with them was a good investment. They are professional, customer satisfaction driven and flexible.

I called American Home Shield and filed a claim for issues involving our plumbing, garbage disposal, and faucet. And the gentleman who came was kind of weird. I told him that the garbage disposal was leaking and he looked at it. He then told me that there was mold underneath it and that there was water damage, so he called EcoDry and the gentleman came out within 45 minutes. And that guy went, "Well, we'll have to tear this down. We can call your adjuster for the homeowner insurance, and they’ll help clear it.” I asked, "What if it's not covered?" and he told me that 99% of the time it is covered. But I didn't let them. I told them that they can do it the other way around and to call the adjuster.

And because of that, the guy who came would not change my faucet because, like he said, there was mold underneath it. So I called another company to get a second opinion. My homeowners’ insurance gave me the name and I called them. The guy came out and told me there was some water damage. It wasn’t expensive. But there was no mold. So I called the plumbing company again and American Home Shield and told them to send the guy back. But the guy would not come back out. He said that there was mold down there. And even though the second company took pictures, he would not come. He still has not replaced my faucet. He just won't.

I called American Home Shield and they were trying to help me, but they said that because the guy said there was water damage, the water damage has to be fixed even though there's no mold there. And I don’t know what the faucet has to do with the water damage. I have supposedly 60 days to call them with no additional charges but I don’t know if I could even get this done within 60 days. The guy was definitely in cahoots with EcoDry because he had the guy’s phone number on his phone and everything, so there must be something going on where he gets some kind of a kickback from them. It was the weirdest experience I ever had. I also don’t understand why AHS gets people from places like Glendale, which is an hour away. I know that they have companies that are closer here.

But the guy fixed the other things. He fixed one of my toilets and replaced the garbage disposal. Then, there were the handles, but he told me that he didn't have proper handles so he'd just tighten them as much as he can. And then there were the little faucets underneath the toilets which turn off the water in emergency things. Those froze because I haven't used them in a long time. The guy went, "Well, I can't replace those because if I replace them, I'll break them.”

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and the contractors came out quickly enough. They were really professional. They explained to me what they were doing and were able to answer all of our questions. Since then, the hot water heater is working and we've had no issues with it.

I’ve had accounts with AHS since 2008, and I have a house in Tennessee that has had problems with the AC. It went out in May and they're still dealing with it as of yesterday. The company that they sent out is horrible. The first time they came out, they said that it was low on Freon, so they added some. But the unit is only two years old, so it shouldn’t be low on Freon. Then of course, that wasn’t what it was so the AC stopped working again. And so, we had to have the contractor back out and the people that they were sending don’t know ACs at all.

Three visits ago, they thought that they had found the problem. But they’re not looking at the entire unit. One of their trips when they came out, they shoved the piece back against my wall in the basement and it was totally disconnected. And so, my entire basement was flooded because they didn’t put it together. So, then I’m having to deal with that. It’s been a nightmare with these people. They were there as late as yesterday still trying to get things figured out.

Whenever they do a repair, it’s like they cause some other problem to happen. The last repair that they did, the thermostat would not control the unit any longer. The technician came out and said it was probably the thermostat that was bad. He had a thermostat in his truck, but he refused to go into the house because he said that my contract did not cover it. So, he just left. I assumed that they were gonna send somebody else out, but they didn’t.

So, I talked to the manager and told them, “How can you tell me it’s the thermostat if you don’t look at the thermostat? Something happened with the thermostat that now it doesn’t control the unit. You have to look at it and figure that out, right?” He said, “Absolutely.” So, he sent somebody out there to look at it. They determined that it was the thermostat, but they didn’t have one with them. It’s been ridiculous. My renters that are there work for an AC company and they keep chomping at the bit whenever I use AHS because I have it and I’m going to use it. I’m not going to let them call somebody else that's not covered by AHS. So, they’ve been really frustrated with it. They’ve been without air conditioning for several weekends, so it’s not been pretty.

I also have a gas leak in my house in Denver and this has been going on since Friday. This is the third day that I’ve taken off work to deal with this. My energy company locked me out of my meter on Friday. And every time I get sent a contractor, I go online and look at all the reviews, and they’re all 1-star. This could cost me my job if I’m sitting here again today and they don’t show up. And I’m gonna be without water again all weekend. Right now, I’ve never had any problem dealing with American Home Shield, and submitting a claim has always been great. But their contractors are still subpar that I probably won’t renew anymore. I would rather pay for it out of my pocket at this point.

It’s very hot here in Fresno and the house wouldn’t go any lower than 85˚-86˚, which is very hot, so I called American Home Shield and I had them send somebody out. The contractors came out that day, which was very good. The guy went up, checked everything, and said everything was fine even though the air conditioning unit was still blowing 85˚. He was there for a short time. About an hour later, the whole thing went off, so I called them again and another guy came out. He came out at 7 o’clock at night and it was very hot. He said that the wires had touched and it blew a fuse. He fixed the fuse and said everything was fine. The next day, it was still 85˚ in there, so I called them out again. He came out, spent a lot of time checking the temperatures, explained everything and told me that everything was working. However, it was still 85˚ in there.

So, two days later, I called them out again and I said that something was wrong and it was unacceptable. So, they came out again. I had a handyman working there and the repairman took him up on top and showed him. They went through everything then they went up to the attic. The repairman told me he went up in the attic and checked all the ducts and that everything was fine. However, the handyman told me the repairman just climbed up the ladder and shone the flashlight at the ducts. I couldn’t call them out again because he spent a lot of time explaining to me everything he did. The system appeared to be working but there was something wrong.

So, I called an independent person out, who went up in the attic and found that four of the ducts were squashed or broken that was why the cool air was not getting into the house. He replaced them and the temperature of the house went down to 77˚- 76˚, which was livable. He charged me $300. I called American Home Shield and explained everything to them, but they said, “Well, too bad, we didn’t approve it, so it’s not covered.”

Another thing they did was, we have a dual-pack system here which is one unit, heating and cooling, and American Home Shield doesn’t have that availability to check that it’s one unit. The heating wasn’t running good, so I wanted them to check both sides of the one unit. The rep said that they had to check both boxes, but according to her, my service fee was only gonna be one service fee because it was one person going out and it was one unit.

I told her that I knew it was gonna happen that they were gonna charge me $250, which was the two service cost, $125 each. But she said no and that she was making the correction notice and I wouldn’t be charged. As soon as that bill came out on my computer, it said $250 and they sent me a notice that I owed $250. I called four days later and they said that there was no correction notice. So after talking to two different people, they put in another correction notice, supposedly.

Now, I want to go ahead and pay the $125, but everybody tells me not to pay until it’s all corrected. And it’s gonna be three to five days and that was the 5th of July and today is the 11th and it still says $250. I got two past due bills and when I called, they told me to wait. I said okay but not to charge my account at $250. They said they wouldn't. So that’s where I stand - you have somebody willing to pay what they owe and then telling me not to do it, and I still don’t see the correction coming out. So, that’s part of it that I’m unhappy with, too. I have four properties with American Home Shield and I’ve had them for 20 years. 75% of the time, there has been no problem. But this has been a nightmare for me.

I bought a new home. I got American Home Shield and I've been with them for about three months now. Recently, I had an AC and a pool issue. The AC issue was resolved quicker at the onset. I called AHS and we scheduled a tech. I paid my service fee, the tech came out, fixed the AC and that was that. However, it was very difficult to get in touch with anybody for the pool issue. The pool was turning green because of salt. I had to leave the pump running 24 hours to 10 days so that there would be movement and it wouldn’t get greener. I ended up going to the online system which was my first time to schedule the service and then everything worked out.

I got a text message from the local tech saying that they were gonna call me. There was also a phone number so I followed up directly with them. The local tech came in and looked at what happened. A cell was burnt out so they ordered the part which took about 10 days to get. When we got the part, the tech came back, put the part in and everything was fixed.

Overall, American Home Shield's coverage is true and my only complaint was that the initial contact to get the ball rolling on the pool was not the most friendly and efficient process. I've got no problem with the online system but I'm old school so I wanna talk to somebody first, more so as I didn’t know if the pool was covered cause there were two coverages, one is the pool and the other one is the salt-making system. Luckily, I had both.

My garage door opener wouldn't work and it was frustrating because I had to keep getting out of my car to close the door. I called a claim in with American Home Shield and the tech they sent out had to replace a part on it. Since the repair, it seems to be working fine. I usually submit my claims to AHS by phone because it's easier and I don't have to wait very long. Also, the online part is really not as convenient as they think it is. So far, I had good interactions with the contractors they sent out. They were quick and honest, too. But if there is a product that has to be constantly fixed, they should consider helping the homeowner and give them a new one. I've had my fridge worked on every single year, sometimes twice a year, and I always had someone replacing this or that, but not the whole thing. It's frustrating and I know it's a problem with all home warranties.

For the first few weeks that we were here, we had dealings with another company. When we called them because there was something wrong, they said the problem was preexisting. I said that this is an old house and everything is pre existing. American Home Shield never mentioned anything like that. We usually submit claims to AHS over the phone, the reps make the appointments and it takes the contractor a couple of days to come out.

The AC was making a bunch of noises and we were concerned. We’ve never had an air conditioner like that and in Minnesota, things were different. The tech was gracious, very nice and kind. He came, went underneath the house, checked the venting, tied up the venting across the ground and cleaned the filters out. And he said everything was fine. We’ve been using them for a little over a year but we have to cancel it for our present home after this month. We’re going into a new home and the seller is buying a home warranty and we are requesting it to be AHS.

I had a problem with my Sub-Zero refrigerator. It's pretty old and I figured it had bit the dust finally, but it hasn’t. It was the thermostat, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. They told me it would take five days for the tech to come out but I thought that they were supposed to come in within 48 hours. So, I called the contractor and they got somebody else to come. In the end, I had to wait three days for a tech to arrive. But the tech who came out fixed the refrigerator. I've had him several times and he’s good. Also, whenever I have to do a claim for a Sub-Zero appliance, I always seem to get somebody really good because you have to have a Sub-Zero rep.

I filed another claim for my dishwasher and a guy from All Out Plumbing came in for that. He's the same one who's working on my washer and dryer right now. He's strange, real hyper, and socially awkward. But he's very good at what he does, he knows this stuff, and he explains things extremely well. I had to initially wait for three days until he came and when he arrived on Monday, he told me that he'd be back on Thursday. But I called him today and he said he wouldn't be here until Monday. So, that's a long time.

The same thing happened for my claim on my Sub-Zero refrigerator. I had no refrigerator for over a week and a half, so I went and bought one. All in all, I don’t like the length of time it takes to get someone here, to get the part needed, and to get the problem fixed. Also, when I asked if the contractors if had any of the parts with them, they said that they can't carry any parts. They gotta get the parts okayed from American Home Shield. Sometimes, the wait on hold is 20 or 30 minutes before they can get through to somebody to approve the work and they have to wait around. But the contractors that AHS has picked out so far have been great. They’re all very professional local companies who do a great job and they are generally able to make repairs. Although I had a repair that was supposed to be done that needed parts and the choice of parts was not what I was needing. We have a white kitchen and we need a white kitchen faucet but they only had stainless steel appliances available. They offered me one faucet for free and then a second upgrade faucet for an additional $75. It was probably fine but it just doesn’t come in the white color that I needed. I told them I would get my own faucet and then call back for installation or I may just do the installation myself.

A social media representative contact me personally, and we were able to find a quality plumber to perform the work and replace the disposal under warranty. She was incredibly helpful and responsive in navigating the process.

I would leave 5 stars for her, but I'm going with 4 stars because I shouldn't have had to escalate the issue in the first place. More reputable service providers would mean I wouldn't have had to escalate the issue.

    Original Review: July 14, 2018

After doing some investigation, here's what I found out. All the quality plumbers, AC people, etc, have so much work that they would never take the lower paying work from a home warranty company. De facto, you get the worst of the subcontractors. They are happy to take your money, but when you have a problem nothing is covered. I finally cancelled today. It was the final straw for me.

My garbage disposal is original to the house. The other day it made a horrible rattling noise, and I found two blades had rusted out and were resting in the bottom. I pulled them out, and filed a claim to replace it. The plumbing contractor came to visit, and I looked them up and they have 2 stars on Yelp. He was here for a total of 5 minutes and just wrote down model numbers of my disposal and my hot water heater. Then left.

A day later, AHS called and said my broken water heater showed no mechanical problems and that garbage disposal was not covered according to subsection blah blah of my contract because the plumber said that I broke it myself (or some other such crazy thing). So, that's the scam. They collect $75 bucks from you as the deductible, send out the worst subcontractors possible, then deny all claims. And it's a multi-million dollar industry. Well, I just opted out. You should too.

The plumbing fittings behind my upstairs shower had worn ever time, so it leaked behind the wall and down into my living room ceiling. The plumber that AHS sent out was good. He found the leak and fixed it. What I wasn’t happy with was the time they had send a sheetrocker to fix the wall that they had to cut through during the repair. There was a lot of miscommunication as far as when he was gonna be here.

He left me a message saying that he was gonna be in the area between such time on such a day, but he never talked to me so I never was sure whether that was a confirmed time. He just said he was gonna be in the area. So I’ve tried calling and getting a hold of them. I left him a message from the number that he had called me from and he didn’t reply back to me. AHS kept on trying to get a hold of him and they couldn’t get a hold of him either. He ended up coming and I wasn’t here because I was working. It took a while to get all that fixed. I had to complain a bunch before he came back and finished it. I had him come at May 10th and it wasn’t completed until May 23rd.

I also felt it was pretty crappy because they only fixed the damage that the plumber caused. He had to cut through my daughter’s wall and they fixed that. But they didn’t fix the downstairs ceiling, so I asked the sheetrocker if he could come back and fix the downstairs ceiling for me. He fixed both of those, but they weren’t filled in. All he basically did was put a piece of sheetrock in and tape around it. You could tell there was a hole cut in the wall and stuff. When fixing the walls you gotta come back, let it dry, then come back and sand it and stuff but none of that was done.

AHS response time isn’t good as well. If I have an emergency and most of my emergencies are plumbing, it’s always a couple days where they’ll get somebody to come out or they’ll have somebody call to set up an appointment to come out. So you’re losing all those days in between. They answer the phone and they’ll get your information but when they actually give it to somebody, it could be several days after.

Please do not purchase an annual home warranty with AHS. If you are having a true emergency, like your AC going out in a heatwave or your fridge stops working when you have family visiting from out of town, know that it'll take 2-3 weeks (and sometimes just never) to resolve the issue if you go through AHS. This is not at all clear when you purchase a home warranty. The website only allows you to request service but then it takes days for the website to ping the subcontractor who you then have to call (and sit on hold) and then get your appointment for 7-8 days later. If you decide to call AHS on the phone, expect a very long wait on hold before being put through to one of those huge, impersonal, noisy call centers.

I have used AHS for 1.5 years and there have been some okay experiences (I mean that by the 3rd visit with the same problem it either gets fixed or I just throw in the towel) but most recently a repairman came and actually made the appliance function worse than when he arrived. There is no recourse. There is no way to lodge a complaint. This company does not care about customers. I have no idea if there is another home warranty company out there but I would highly recommend looking into really anyone other than AHS. Dealing with AHS has been among the most depressing experiences in the past 18 months for me and my family.

We got AHS as our home warranty company for a year when we purchased our home. NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. Every contractor they sent was INCOMPETENT and made our problems worse. The first company they sent to repair our pool which ended up being a simple fix came SIX times and didn’t repair the problem. We had to jump through hoops to get an outside vendor authorized. With the next pool problem they did authorize our outside vendor. The third pool problem they sent another incompetent pool company to repair the problem (we requested authorization for our outside vendor and they declined). They came out 2 times and made the problem much worse both times. We had to ARGUE and threaten legal action to get our outside vendor approved. They still did not cover everything necessary to fix the problems their company created. DO NOT PURCHASE AHS!!!

I'm happy with American Home Shield and I recommend them a lot. I have been with them for 20 years now and I've stayed with them because I'm able to pay a low fee to get things repaired and replaced. Their customer service has also been good but I hate calling them. Their hold time is horrible. You can sit on hold and you can wait and wait and wait. That is not good and my time is important to me. I told them the other day, "Why don’t you have the feature that you can call and take the phone number and call us back." That is so easy but no, they don't do that. And actually, once, somebody told me that they got it in place and that they're perfecting it already. Then I filed a claim with them for our AC. MLB of Iowa was supposed to come out, but they can't make it until a week later so I had to cancel them. I had to find my own independent contractor because it was high 90s then and we couldn’t bear it.

My home AC unit stopped working and I didn’t have air conditioning while the unit was down. It was 125 degrees around so it was hot. So, I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. Their claims process was wonderful and they resolved the issues on my AC unit. AHS sent out a very knowledgeable contractor. He was out three times. He repaired the unit within an hour for the first and second time then the third time, he ordered a part which took about a week to get here and he installed it in about two hours. He got it taken care of in a timely manner. So far, AHS has stood behind their warranty. I've had good experiences with them and I would recommend them.

I got American Home Shield to have coverage just in case something breaks and I've been with them for about eight months. Most of our interactions with their reps went well but I have a washing machine that broke twice and the second time, it took a while for them to get it fixed. I told the guy from Chesapeake Appliance Repair, and I probably shouldn't have, that another company had come out and fixed it who said that it was the fuse that was blown. The guy wrote down fuse blown on his paper and didn't pull anything off the washing machine to see what was wrong with it and asked me to sign the paper. I wasn't happy about that. Then, it took a long time and he didn't come out to fix the problem. So, AHS transferred the case to another company.

When the next person came out, they said it wasn't the fuse and that it was the timer. If we had took the time to pull everything off to see what the real problem was instead of writing down what the other guy wrote down or did, we could have saved a lot of time. The tech is scheduled to come out and I'm still waiting on that. I've had to go to laundry and wash my clothes which is money out of my pocket that I have to spend on top of the $50 I spend every month and the $100 service fee that I've had to pay twice.

AHS needs to hire contractors that are reliable when they send them out to people's homes. Also, sometimes when you call these companies, it’s hard to get someone on the phone and you constantly get voicemail which is very annoying. Sometimes it takes a little while for them to schedule you for them to come out to your home.
