I made a claim online and the AHS website was user-friendly and easy to navigate. My air conditioner wasn't blowing cool air and the tech that came for it was knowledgeable. He came in and switched out the part that wasn’t broken, and he was very efficient. The AC has been working since then. There was one part that I didn’t read real closely about the amount that AHS covers for a pound of Freon to put in, but it’s in the contract and that information is direct and accurate. I would recommend them.

Our hot water heater went out, so I made a claim for a plumbing issue. The telephone people that I placed the claim with were a little bit confused. I told them it was the hot water heater and they sent someone out. I was getting calls about a toilet. They quoted it wrong when I talked to people on the phone. Nevertheless, the people who came out were good. We had a set time, and then they were there on time. They got it replaced quickly. Everything about it once I got past the initial phone call to the call center was great. I've been with American Home Shield for three months now.

I called American Home Shield when the air conditioner quit cooling. It took a reasonable time to get a contractor to come out and a young man did the job. He thoroughly searched and tried to find out what the problem was. He repaired it and since then, the AC has been working fine.

The AC wasn’t able to cool down. It was in the upper 70s in the house so it wasn’t working efficiently. The contractor was able to come out the same day which was awesome. I couldn’t have been happier with the contractor. He introduced himself, reviewed the issue, came back, and then told me what the issue was when he had the parts. He communicated very well during the process. Having the warranty has been valuable, more so than I ever would’ve imagined. My experience was excellent and I highly recommend AHS.

We have a very old water heater. It was rusted and the water wasn't getting hot. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. All Shore Plumbing called me right away and their guy was at the house within a couple of hours because he was in the area. He said that the unit was very old and that it was gonna go soon. He turned the knob to put the unit on so that the water was hotter. However, I didn't wanna wait until the water heater goes because when the water heater went at the house that I was living in, there was water everywhere and it turned into mold and mildew. So what I did was I went and I personally replaced the water heater myself.
I also have a problem with my air conditioning unit and I've been in constant contact with American Home Shield. I'm thankful that they're actually helping me. They've sent a guy, who's really nice and seems knowledgeable, and he has already replaced all the coils and the unit started working at the time. However, it's not working again. So the guy came back out and he replaced the outside unit, which he said is not gonna make the summer. Then, on Friday, he replaced the piece that was burnt out and then he had me put a service call in for the furnace because he said the thermostat and the control panel are bad. He said that that was why the unit keeps running, burning the outside piece. So the fan runs but it doesn’t provide cool air to the house. I’m waiting for him to call me to tell me when he can come out because I already paid American Home Shield the money I had to pay.
I don't know if I should ask for another company because the guy told me that American Home Shield doesn't replace the actual unit and that American Home Shield would send him 20 times just to rebuild what I already have. But then, American Home Shield has told me that if something goes wrong, they would replace the whole unit. Also, to me, the contractor continuously working on the unit doesn’t seem cost-effective because when he replaced the coil thing, it cost me $900. Additionally, the coil he's replacing in the furnace is $400.
On top of that, I would pay $106 every time I place the call. I hope he’s not going step by step instead of telling American Home Shield the whole issue in the beginning. Unless he really didn’t know and it’s like trial and error. To me, if you’re an HVAC guy and you’re in the business 15 years, and you’ve been dealing with American Home Shield for 10 years, it seems like you would assess the whole thing rather than do it piece by piece. It also worries me that when I looked the guy up, I saw that he has two really bad ratings out of three.

Submitting a claim to AHS is fine once I figured out how to do it. I first tried to call but got nowhere doing that. So I went online like they said I was supposed to do and everything went smoothly. Maybe they should make it clear that you should file your claim online. But they were able to get a contractor out to me in a few days. I scheduled it for a later date that was more convenient for me. So it was pretty quick. The contractors came in and they rekeyed the property. And then today, the contractors came and fixed the dryer.

I called American Home Shield today because I'm having trouble with the washer and dryer. In the process of information, the rep on the line said that she'd let me talk to somebody but I never did. They asked me to leave my number and they'd call me back, but nobody's ever called me back yet. Nonetheless, I've been happy with American Home Shield and you should try them. I previously phoned in a plumbing claim for my drain that was stuffed and they sent a very good contractor. The problem was fixed.

The AC was not running and I made a phone call to AHS. The reps were very protective, asked me appropriate questions, scheduled me for the maintenance, and had the maintenance person call me. The contractors were very helpful. They gave me more information on what else to do and what my options would be. Plus, they were fast in fixing the problem. On the next day, another person came and gave me a quote on a new air conditioning system, which they recommended me to do. AHS gives good service and takes care of you well.

A fan in a room over the garage and a light in a closet off of that room were not working. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and the response was quick. I got an email and a text and it took them a day or so to send a contractor out. He came in, looked at the issues, and explained what was going on. He pulled the panel off the wall and determined that there was something bad behind the switch plate, so he replaced that. The problem was solved within 15 minutes and it has been working great since then.

Our AC was blowing hot air so I went online and found American Home Shield's number. I called them on a Monday morning and their contractor, A & R Complete Services Corp., didn’t get there until Tuesday afternoon. Then they were there for just a few minutes. The tech knew exactly what the problem was, fixed it, and the AC worked fine. Everything was good.

American Home Shield is the best that I've come in contact with as far as home warranty programs go. I called AHS when I had an issue with my air conditioning. I filed the claim over the phone since the online method is confusing for the older adult. The contractor that AHS sent was wonderful in his demeanor and did the job that he was called to do. The AC has been working well since then.

Beware American Home Shield.
Good morning Lance,
I understand your frustration with the non covered cost that were associated with the repairs. Per every American Home Shield contract, only $10 per/lb of Freon is covered. I would be glad to speak with you.

I heard all kinds of things about American Home Shield like they will try to fix things if they’re repairable ad nauseum until they finally have to replace it. But in our particular case, we didn’t have to go through that dance. The AC wasn't working and the motor was not fixable. So they replaced the part and we were back to good. That was our first experience with them and it went perfectly.
We’re in Las Vegas and the temperature was 110 degrees. We filed the claim online immediately that weekend because the regular hours were not open to us. And they responded immediately during business hours the next day. We had to wait about three days for the contractor because it was high season and over summer in Las Vegas. But we bit the bullet and they did arrive when they said they would arrive.
The technician went up there and found out what the problem was. He indicated that getting a replacement might take a long time because there was no such part in Las Vegas. However, we got an email the next day saying somebody would be here the following day and that they had the part necessary. So it was fine. I was pleased and because of this good experience, we've upgraded our coverage. Since appliances don’t last forever, we will end up calling American Home Shield in the future, and I hope that that time will be just as satisfactory. Hopefully, they don’t disappoint us down the road.

My first experience with AHS was when my daughter's bathtub was not draining and the faucet handle broke. Local company Allstadt Plumbing came out. They ended up taking out my drain plunger and never replaced it. Told me to get a rubber stopper. They replaced my broken faucet handle with ones that do not fit. So over a year later this is still not fixed. I brought this up to AHS and they said they were aware the job wasn't complete because it stated this in the notes from the contractor. Still today NOT FINISHED nor have they attempted to make it right. Then I made another claim for my A/C. Company Nicks came out and told me I was getting a whole new A/C. Long story short, NO NEW A/C and they replaced a couple pieces. Since then my A/C runs non stop and my electric bills are outrageous!!! My house is approx. 1600 sq ft. and my electric bill runs more here than it did in my 3000 sq ft home. It runs NON-STOP and they have yet to fix it.
I was told the work done was not sufficient for this house size. More recent my kitchen sink started leaking because a PVC pipe came off, my dishwasher stopped draining and my brand new fridge is leaking water and not making ice. Guy comes out says he doesn't do plumbing and I'll have to call someone but he will order me a new ice maker because my fridge model has nothing but trouble and I needed a new fridge. (Fridge is barely 2 yrs old). NEVER GOT THE NEW ICE MAKER and for another 100 dollars a plumber came out and put pipe glue on my sink pipe and called it a day, they broke my faucet in the meanwhile but left it as is. (SAME COMPANY AS THE TUB)!
I called AHS multiple times and the last two times went through the series of events. BOTH times I was told that the person on the phone was going to contact their supervisor and tell them the situation and they promised promised promised to call back within 24 hours. NO CALL BACK EITHER TIME! This company has horrible follow through and is taking money without authorization and I have contacted an attorney.
If my issues are not resolved completely within 30 days (ALL OF THEM) American Home Shield is going to have quite a mess on their hands. I am tired of spending hours on the phone all for nothing getting resolved. They have no trouble taking money out of my MOTHERS debit card WITHOUT HER AUTHORIZATION but cant return a call to save their butts. Needless to say I will NEVER renew again. 1 time was enough and I will pass on the word about how this company is fraudulent and doesn't do the work but has no trouble taking money without authorization. They find the crappiest companies to (not) do the work!
Good morning Carrie,
I understand that there are a number of issues that you have requested service for through American Home Shield. I would be glad to speak with you and look into getting each issue resolved.

Last of May 2018, I contacted American Home Shield to repair my A/C as it was not cooling. At that time I explained to not send a contractor that was not Carrier certified as they would not be able to purchase parts to repair. They said ok. 3 days later Complete A/C came and took 15 minutes to determine the part needed and I should be contacted the next day or 2 to come back to finalize the repair. A week passed and I called Complete A/C to see when they were coming and was told the job was turned back to AHS as they were not Carrier certified. I called AHS again and was scheduled with a new contractor. A couple days later Total Air Care (main office in central FL and I live in NW LA) who also agreed on part needed and I should be called the next day as to when they would be able to return.
Days went by and I start calling Total Air taking a minimum of 20 minutes each person I was forwarded to. After about a week on contractor showed up, looked at the part in the box and decided it was a two man job. He called another co-worker who agreed to meet up with him a couple hours later at my house and do the repair. They did not return. Each day I am on the phone with Total Air and AHS killing 2 hours a day in efforts to repair my A/C. It should also be noted that the heat index was between 105 and 109 degrees daily. Weeks later they finally show up with 2 contractors and they commence to do the repair. They remove the evaporator coil and allowed drainage to go through my light standards, stereo speakers, air vents, and worst of all the ceiling. I now have to have my ceiling repainted, air vents replaced and anything else that is needed.
The freon came through the vents and such hitting my ceiling fan and sprayed all over the living room and onto my wife and myself. They tried to hook a 4 ton evaporator coil where a 5 ton evaporator coil was needed. Because of this had to have another part as the smaller unit would not connect. One member came downstairs and said all he had to do was add freon and indicated we would have cool soon. At that time gave me the bill and wanted payment to finish. I paid $1036 and he went outside and left. The other person was still upstairs rumbling around and came down as went outside. I checked the attic and there was such a mess. The old evaporator coil was still in the middle of the floor and a mess was everywhere. The new coil was partially connected but was not taped or sealed. IF freon had been added it would have been strewn all over the attic area.
I confronted the remaining worker who said they were not finished and that his partner had gone back to the shop for parts to finish the job. 2 more weeks passed and no word from anyone but I'm on the phone each day, now twice a day, to AHS and Total Air trying to find out the status. Finally, one of the AHS people asked if I wanted another contractor and I said yes. They told me I would be contacted within 24 hours. Fifty some hours later with no response after I call the new referral and had to leave a message. I next called my A/C company that does my service and they were out the next day to determine the problem. They agreed problem as well as compressor. Twenty fours hours later I had a new unit costing me $11,600. My credit card company reimbursed my $1036 even though I went through Total Air who agreed to return my money but never did.
We also had to spend one week in a motel due to the heat that I would like reimbursement on. I was able to rough it while my wife was out of town but it continued to heat up and we could not take it any longer. I have made numerous attempts to contact AHS for someone to talk with me and determine some type of satisfactory resolve but can not get ** to contact me. So far my contract has now expired which I will not renew with AHS and have 2 other contracts with AHS that as they expire, will not renew. I was a long term customer but have learned my lesson. I feel that AHS owes me in excess of $12,000 and have not been able to make my repairs to my ceiling as of this date. I tried to work with AHS on my A/C in excess of 5 weeks!!
Good morning Tom,
I understand your frustration with your experience to have the AC system repaired through your warranty. Per the review I am aware that some secondary damage occurred to your ceiling which you are requesting a reimbursement for.

I called in a claim with American Home Shield for a clogged toilet and they quickly had SAP Home Repair come out. We had a very good experience with the contractors. When I had a dryer issue, AHS sent someone out who patched the dryer. I’ve got the same issue again, so I’m going to have to take off work again for the tech to come back out.
As a renter, a few years ago, the landlord had AHS and they would not replace the refrigerator. They kept patching the same problem seven times and I had to keep taking off work. Finally, I told my landlord that they or American Home Shield had to buy me a new refrigerator. I can’t keep taking off work for the same issue over and over. I hope that’s not what I’m getting into with my dryer. The contractor is coming back on Friday and if he does the same thing, I’ll tell him not to leave with just doing that because that is a temporary patch. That’s not the root of the issue. I’m no dryer repairman, but what the contractor did last time was not gonna take care of the problem.

I've had my warranty with American Home Shield for a year now and it has been good so far. Recently, my pool wasn't suctioning and I filed a claim, and that experience was good. I typically submit claims online and the contractors they assign generally contact me within 24 hours. For the claim with my pool, the contractor, SunBright Pool Services, has already come out once. The air conditioning unit went out. American Home Shield sent a local company out and they had to send them out three times to get it fixed completely but I understood the whole process. I filed the original claim online and it was easy. Then, I filed the other two on the phone and the agents were professional but their process was horrible. I called to set up the claim and every time, it would tell me to hold and then, it would just say, “Goodbye,” and then hang up. I called back five times and it kept doing it. I ended up calling sales and they patched me through. Then, I spent about 53 minutes on hold before I even spoke to somebody.
The tech came in and diagnosed it. They spent 12 minutes there, which in my eyes wasn’t enough time to make sure that the unit was working properly before they left. But they were able to come back out and they replaced the capacitor. Also, there were loose wires and they fixed the wires and they had to come back to replace the blower. I’m satisfied with AHS. Overall, getting a-hold of somebody was the biggest pain but they got the work done. We're selling the house and we're gonna recommend AHS for the purchase.

Our Freon was all gone and the AC was leaking. I made a claim online with American Home Shield and called them as well. The person on the phone was helpful. Unfortunately, it was the hottest time of the week when we were having our heat wave and everybody there was going out so I was not first in line, but it was what it was. It took a day or two, but it was fine. The tech showed up at the time they were scheduled. He was in and out in a short period of time and fixed everything. Our AC's working fine. AHS did a great job, overall. I always recommend them to anyone getting a new home. I tell them that it’s important to have home insurance because an air conditioning going out will cost them several thousand dollars and $75 plus the premium a year is worth the cost.

A few months ago, there was an issue with the AC where the HVAC had a violet light. United Air Temp came to repair it. Recently, my tenant was complaining that he could smell gas, so I got the Washington Gas people to come and look at the AC and they said that because of whoever repaired it, there was a leak in the gas. I reached out to United Air Temp and American Home Shield, and they forced me to create a new service request and pay an additional service request fee. In my view as a consumer, if they made any mistake in their repair, they should have covered it at least for a year or some period. It was not a new issue that was happening. It was like the issue happened because of the service.
I paid the additional service request fee because the issue was out of the 60-day guarantee of service period. Then the United Air Temp guys came. First they looked into it and said, “We need a part.” Then they went back and got the part. They tried to put the part in the fuel gasket, but it was broken because they tried to screw it too tight before. They said, “Now, we have to get another part,” so they went back again. Then they came the third time, and they ran out of time. They said, “We have to go somewhere else, so can we come back again?” The fourth time when they came, they were able to fix it. But it was a problem for me that I had to take four times. I had to come to the property and get that fixed.

We called AHS on Wednesday to file a claim for our dishwasher. They said C&D Appliance will call us within 24 hours. That was fine and I understood. They have dispatchers. I’m a flight attendant and I’m not always home, my husband waited for C&D Appliance to call, but they didn’t even call my phone. Since AHS had given us the information of who it would be, when C&D Appliance didn’t call within 24 hours or so, my husband called. He told them about the claim, gave them his phone number and asked them to call him when they needed to schedule with us.
C&D Appliance called and said the timeframe would be Friday between noon and 2:00. By 2:00 o’clock, my husband had not heard from them and when I had gotten to my overnight in Las Vegas, I received a message from them that said they tried to call me, but I didn’t respond and they ended up speaking to the answering machine. It was well past their hours. I called back and yelled at ‘em. I said that we’ve never had problems like this, they are not very professional and that we’ve given them the right number to call. It was a Saturday so they couldn’t call until Monday. They then called my phone again to make an appointment.
When the man, Cliff, came out, he wouldn’t even look at me and my husband dealt with him. He was also the man that called. He said that it looked like we did this and that, but he was going to submit the claim. The next thing we know, we received a call from AHS. The guy said that the serviceman said that the issue was something we did and we're not covered if we broke the hinge on the dishwasher door. He said that we can appeal. We had to go out and buy a new dishwasher because this guy decided that that’s the way it was. It was very unprofessional. When he called me, we didn’t even wanna go into it with him. We just went out and bought a dishwasher. We just chalked it up to a bad experience.
Ramb’s Appliance worked on something in my freezer. We didn’t stand over the tech and he left with a piece. Then he accused us of swapping it out or breaking the piece. You had to have a screwdriver to get to it. We’ve told AHS that we never wanted Ramb’s to come out again. The air conditioning people, they were fabulous though. We’ve been customers of AHS for at least 10 years if not longer and almost a month ago, we purchased AHS for my aunt in Apopka. We would recommend them.

The AC stopped cooling because it was low on Freon. There was a leak in the condenser coil. So, I called in to submit a claim and American Home Shield dispatched Airtronics in 2 days. They were late when they came out and then they told me that they couldn't add Freon for me. They couldn't do anything to get me through the weekend and that I needed to call my own contractor. Then, their sales guy tried to sell me a whole brand new unit for $6,000. That's when I got a second opinion.
Another time, there was a leaking plumbing from the upstairs shower and it was leaking down to our fireplace. American Home Shield sent a contractor out and he said that he needed to tear apart the shower, but he couldn't do it and the company wouldn't let him do it. I had to get my own contractor to do that and then American Home Shield would cover them coming out and doing the gasket replacement. Ultimately, the whole access that the tearing apart of the shower and putting it back together was gonna be a couple thousand dollars. I then had my own non-American Home Shield related plumber come out and he looked at it, popped the new gasket in in two seconds, and that was fixed. Since American Home Shield was not that great, I did not renew my contract. They were a pain to deal with on the claims side and everything they were gonna replace were just cheap parts.

Apparently, in all of San Antonio there is nobody that can fix the hole in the wall according to American Home Shield which I found a little bit crazy. So, the plumber experience with American Home Shield didn’t end so well. However, the locksmith experience was pleasant. My AC had quit blowing out cold air and I had to use Total Air Care. They came in and put in a compressor. It was around three weeks before I got my new heat pump through All American Air out of Panama City. They were wonderful and they fixed it. They said that American Home Shield shouldn’t have to pay for the compressor that Total Air Care used. AHS paid $1500 for a compressor that went out that was not even two weeks old. So, I called and talked to AHS and they allowed me to authorize another vendor that I paid out of my pocket to come out just to look and see what was going on. I didn’t want Total Air Care coming back out because they ripped AHS off. AHS said the compressor should have never been put in there and that I needed a whole new heat pump. AHS authorized it and I got the pump, and everything is working great.
American Home Shield really helped me out this time. They’ve always been very supportive and they’ve helped me out with everything I need. I love them. I would tell others to get AHS. I’m also considering getting it for my family residence and I’ve been telling my mother about it sometimes to recommend other people to get the service as well. I highly recommend AHS.

There was an issue with our AC's fan and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. The reps have always been nice, but they told me that it would be two days for this and that, and it seemed like I was being shined on. Then it took four visits for the contractor to get the issue right. The tech replaced the capacitor, which was not the problem, then he tried something else. We were without an AC for the entire month. The issue is fixed now, but it could have been so much nicer. But we only had to pay the fee once, so that was decent.

The AC was not cooling so I called American Home Shield. It was fine with the rep, as it always is, and they got the contractor out the next day. When the contractor came out, they talked to me and the guy told me what was wrong. The AC was icing up and he had to change a part. It worked out fine. I’m in the process of trying to put my house on the market and if I sell this house, I will recommend AHS to the new buyer.

When the blower motor of the AC went out and it wasn’t circulating air, my wife filed a claim to AHS. It took two days to get the contractor out. We had an excellent interaction with them, but it took a week to get the part. I couldn't fault the contractor for it because it was a special order and it's a custom unit. As soon as he got the part, the contractor came out and fixed it. I was happy with the service. We were a little skeptical about renewing our warranty with AHS because we didn’t think we were gonna need it, but having that we used the warranty and it saved us a boatload of cash to have the AC fixed, we will be keeping AHS in the future.

I had a water leak right at the exterior wall of my house and I called American Home Shield. I asked the operator if it was covered in the warranty and she said that it was. An estimate came through and after that, a gentleman came to service. Then, he said to me that it was not warrantied. I called the office telling them it was a mistake from their side and that the charge should be removed. They said they were gonna retrieve the first phone call and let me know. Then, I got an email saying they were gonna process the payment. I was surprised they were charging me.
I called and got a lady who was very helpful and she moved me to the billing department who looks into those kind of issues. I had to get on the line on the phone for a long time to clear this issue. Dealing with the actual people there has been excellent. It’s just this negative outlook on how they kinda dropped the ball and now, I’m waiting on the phone to get somebody to answer my question. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. They sent me 20 plumbers to fix my spigot water faucet and none of them is worth anything. None of them fixed anything. I had to go online and order stuff because they couldn't get them. They came back out to put them in and they charged me another price. But then they messed up the installation. They put the pipes too short. I could do better work than what they did. They also sent GasPro for the stove but they didn't know how to fix a stove. Another company came out and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the stove. AHS gave me my money back for it.
When I called about the water heater, they tried to find the page that the water heater was on, but it wasn’t on that page. Come to find out the water heater wasn’t even on my contract, but, then they said it was covered. Last Tuesday, a guy came here. He asked me about my water heater and wanted to see it. I took him downstairs and showed it to him. He told me it was gonna cost me $800 in modification to put the thing in it. The contract said they weren't gonna charge me anything and that they were gonna replace it. But then he said I had to pay that. They were supposed to buy me out and they told me somebody had already been out here and put one in. However, nobody has been out here and put one in.
Then, the lady who called out here asked me to schedule, I told her I was not satisfied. She asked me if I wanted to cancel but I said no. She kept getting smart and so I told her to cancel it. Then the contractors wanted to come back but I told them they ain’t coming back here, not with their attitude. I didn’t like the way they talk. We were without hot water the whole weekend: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

I bought this house last year with Old Republic as the warranty company and when it was time to renew, I got on the internet to see who was top rated. American Home Shield seemed to be the number one company so I went with them. I filed a claim with AHS as the AC wouldn’t come on at all. It was 90 degrees outside and I thought I was gonna die. Everything went fine with the claim. AHS was great and the only thing was that the technician was late. But he had an issue with the consumer that he was working with prior to me so I could understand that. He was also very nice and he got right on it. My daughter got a new house and she needs to have this protection as well. You’ll never know when something would go out.

I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue on June 1st and it took a really long time for the technician to contact me to the point that I made a complaint. I gave the second technician almost three days to contact me and they didn’t respond at all to my phone calls or my text messages. I called AHS and implored them to find another technician in the area and even told them the zip code that is nearby that may not seem like it was in my area. I may be closer to that zip code than the area that they have been reaching out to.
The plumbing company didn’t come to my home and sent in an estimate in which I waited another two weeks only to find out that AHS felt that their estimate was too high and said they were going to send a second opinion. The second opinion person they wanted to send was the very first person who never responded in a three-week period in the first place. They got him on the phone while I was on the phone and we scheduled a meeting for which he came by. He was a one-person company and he complained about the really long wait times to get on the phone to do an authorization. So, I hoped to facilitate that and it finally got straightened out yesterday.
I had to get back on the phone with AHS last night because the plumber who will do the work stated that the issue in my home was not on the same ticket and they told him that they did not see the second issue when I initially called them. The wonderful woman I worked with last night on the phone made the notes and straightened it out. I heard from the technician this morning and we made an appointment for Friday next week. My greatest concern which has been brewing since June 1st is that they’ll open up and find mold. If that is the case, I want mitigation done not at my expense. We’ve gone around and around in a circle about this issue because the people who gave the first estimate did not come in and see. They said it was exorbitant and that was problematic for my home.
Customer service has very long wait times but one of the agents shared with me the times of day to call for a lesser wait time and that has been working. The reps were always very courteous and they listen but I was supremely disappointed with there not being documentation of the second issue. I would recommend AHS but this is a hiccup that should not be overlooked.

My air conditioner seemed to not be running cold enough and it just stayed on all day. I wanted to have a contractor come out because our units are original to the house. The house was built in ’89. I submitted a claim online through American Home Shield's website. It’s really super easy. Just log-in, select what issue is and click submit. You can even give your credit card information if they’re gonna send somebody out and it auto charges your card which is nice.
You would tell them how you wanna be contacted and I like emails. I got an email instantly both from American Home Shield and in this case, Budget AC. It was really quick for them to dispatch someone. With my schedule and their schedule, it took about two days to get out. I talked about what the issue was. They were dealing with our unit outside so the contractor went and checked it out. He came back and told me what his diagnosis was, what he recommended and then any additional cost.
He checked the Freon level and it was low so he added Freon but he also told me that because of the age of the unit, there could be a small leak. He didn’t do a test for a leak but he recommended going ahead and jacking the system with something that would help with the leak. It was an extra $100 to do that and I went ahead and said, “Yeah, let’s do that.”
With the age of the unit and the heat we’ve had this summer, it’s not super surprising that it's still not cooling as effectively as a new unit probably would. The contractor and I talked about the age of the component of the unit and it not being able to cool the house as well as something that’s a more efficient, newer unit but it has been better. Overall AHS has been great. The warranty is a very good investment and they make it really easy. We have issues and we get them resolved quickly without having to do a lot of legwork and figuring out which contractor to go to. They make it simple, straightforward and I just love them.

We previously had an account with American Home Shield when we were in our house in California and we had them for eight years. This is our second time and we’ve been with them for two years. We have continued doing business with AHS for the familiarity of it and the coverages. However, it is more expensive for us in Florida for some reason and the contract is about $200 than when we were in California.
It was easy to submit a claim to AHS and it was easy to deal with them. Most of the time, I try to go online and do it. And if there’s an issue, then I call. I’ve had three people that I referred to and when they needed the warranty at some point, they weren’t able to get the help they needed but we are fine. As for our most recent claim, AHS initially requested somebody who was 150 miles away. So, I called and told them that the company was not even near us and I doubt that they wanna drive out here to fix the air conditioner.
Then, AHS tried contacting the company, and by the next day, they had another company that they had us in contact with. My husband showed the contractor what was going on, and the contractor took care of the business he needed to take care of. He wasn’t even here two hours. Our air conditioning was running fine but the water was leaking out in the garage, which was making some of the stuff rusty. But, now, everything is fine.

Contacted American Home Shield (AHS) on June 30, 2018 for a non-working AC unit. As of today, August 11, 2018 it is still not fixed. Three companies have been sent out. None seemed very good at communication so each time I had to call for assistance and follow-up with AHS. Tried calling a few of the vendors a few times but none of them really gave me the time of day. Most times on hold for far too long when trying to reach AHS. One time they said I could leave my number and I would get a callback. Call back happened within minutes only to find myself on hold for over 20 minutes!
Third company that looked at unit now is proposing replacing but is adding $1,150 (see another posting on here from a guy Texas saying say amount of $1,150) of non-covered modifications (excluded in the contract but no clear explanation of what or why it needs to be done as unit was installed in past ten years and passed city and regulatory inspections). Breakdown is $500 for electrical modifications (for an existing unit that already has modern electric with a disconnect), $300 for a new line-set, $100 for a new disc-connect (wouldn't this be part of electrical modifications plus the other $500 for electric mods?), $150 for a cold pump up (no idea?) and $100 to insulate line.
First company said unit was destroyed by dog urine but yard is fenced and there is no dog. Second company didn't even diagnose. Third company tried to sell me a new unit (furnace included) but said he could give me a discount or special pricing. That sounded dodgy and more like a hustle or scam. Of course that is the company that they are supposedly going to use to replace outside unit. As a former property manager and handy-man I am going to see what actually gets replaced.

We purchased a house in Rocklin, CA in June 2018. We got the AHS warranty thru the seller of the house. The AC unit started acting up… not cooling down the house from early July. Contacted AHS and they sent the first tech to check out the unit. The tech added 1.5 lb Freon and left quickly and said the system is fixed. He didn't even stay to see if this would help to solve the problem or not. Since, the problem was not solved, we called again and another tech came a few days later (hard to make an appointment for the next 48 to 72 hours as most of these contracted companies with AHS are busy due the extreme hot temperature +100 degree in Rocklin) and just replace the thermostat batteries and left quickly similar to the first one.
Setting up all these appointments and be present at home either from 8 am to 12 pm or 12 pm to 6 pm are time consuming (it’s been 5 times so far and the 6th one is scheduled for next week!!).
The AC system is old and needs to be replaced, but AHS doesn't want to do that as it cost them money. Please think about people first, it's been a month, 5 different technicians from 3 different companies have tried to fix it and they couldn't. The last call I made on 8/8/18 to AHS was to complain about the situation and they said the last tech must go back but we need to wait another 6 days as they are extremely busy at this time of the year. They offered me again the 1-star ranked company that potentially could come sooner but I’ve already lost faith on that company so I said, "NO, I'll wait to the better company to come. I am already in contact with other service providers outside the warranty and so far they all saying that the system has to be replaced."
I don't know why even people buy home warranties as you can’t really use them!! In the last 3 days, I learned that they use the lowest quality service providers who are not skilled and efficient at all. I hope someone from AHS can hear me and make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. And sorry for not being polite and kind as I tried to be for the last month, but have got really frustrated! Thank you!
Good morning Ed,

Shortly after I signed the contract my AC broke. I called them, they sent a tech out, I paid a $100 service fee. The company that came out was incompetent. They did not investigate the issue and decided to replace parts. Over the course of 2 months I was on and off without AC. The company kept coming out but the AC kept going out.
I requested a second opinion but AHS said that they had to wait on the company. In the end, I had to hire a company outside of AHS to fix the problem because they did not cover the repair in their contact. I paid a cancellation fee. Initially, I paid $550 for a contract which they did not reimburse me. The said that I needed to pay the cost of they paid for the contractor to come out.

This man was incompetent and rude and I told him that I didn’t want him in my home, and to send a different technician. He canceled the whole thing. I waited and waited. I had to call AHS and go through the whole process for somebody else to come out. They came out within a day and they fixed one immediately, and for the other, I had to wait a few days for the part to arrive. That was a good experience, although I spent about five hours on the phone with the American Home Shield reps. They were supposed to refund me the $100, which they have not, and I just checked my email yesterday and it’s showing that I owe them $100, which they already debited my account for.
That one instance was absolutely horrible and now they’re asking for more money again. I finally got through and spoke to a manager and said that she was going to credit my account, which they actually took money out the day when that horrible technician came out. They were supposed to only debit my account when the services were complete, but they took it out when nothing was done. That horrible company that came out got paid for doing nothing and what he said was completely wrong with the refrigerator. I have had their service for at least three years, but I haven’t had any problems before. Another time, I paid the contractor $100 because there was something wrong with the toilet and they were telling me that I needed to pay American Home Shield too and I didn’t respond. I wasn't paying them twice. Now, AHS collects the money and you don’t pay the technician.

I was disappointed that AHS paid for the parts but didn’t pay for the Freon when I submitted a claim before. I wasn’t prepared for that and I was most especially not prepared for how expensive the Freon was. They should include in their ads that the warranty doesn’t include the cost of Freon. That way, you know what you’re dealing with. I noticed that there was dripping onto the floor in the basement and I had taken pictures of that and at the time that they looked at it, it wasn’t really used much prior to that. That time he wasn’t able to see the leak. He just said to monitor it and then if we see anything to put in another claim. I also had one problem. The basement had flooded with the water softener and I put in a claim, but water softeners weren’t covered in that plan. Other than that, I haven't seen a leak recently. The tech fixed two other things that were leaking and replaced one that wasn’t able to be fixed. Since then it has been good.

When we called American Home Shield to inquire about getting the service from them, they picked up their phones quickly and were phenomenal. But when it came to a claim, the wait time was horrible. So it was very deceptive. I would be on hold for over an hour. It was ridiculous. I even had to do it multiple times so the wait time was way too long.
When the person from Bell Cow came out to look at the AC to see if it could be repaired, they noticed that there were two things wrong with it and that both would need to be replaced. But when American Home Shield called me back, they told that the claim was approved for only one part. I told them that I had a copy of what the contractor gave me and they said there were two things that were wrong. The contractor had only told American Home Shield about one issue so they had to check with the contractor. That was another delay in the process and it took American Home Shield too long to get back to me to follow up on that. So I made several more attempts to find out what was going on. Finally, someone called me and said the claim was approved then they gave me what my out-of-pocket would be.
I asked the rep what was the brand name of the unit I would be getting and the rep said that the company that would be installing it was ordering everything. So if I had any questions, I would need to talk to them. But when I finally got through to the people in Bell Cow, they told me that they didn't order anything and that American Home Shield was ordering everything. I didn't know who was telling the truth in that respect but nobody could give me information as to what was the brand name of the part so I wasn't pleased with that.
Then when I asked when I could get an installation date, Bell Cow said they couldn't tell me because American Home Shield was taking care of ordering everything. American Home Shield was going to contact them when the part came in. So that was very frustrating. I called constantly, trying to find out when the install date was gonna be. At one point, Bell Cow told me that they had gotten one part in but not the other one. I asked if they had any idea when the other part may be in and they said maybe Friday. I called back on Friday but it wasn't there. I called back that Tuesday and they finally told me the second part had come in. I requested a Saturday install day but they said that they didn't have any Saturday appointments, which was very inconvenient. If I didn't have American Home Shield and I called a company on my own, I could have gotten a Saturday appointment.
I asked the scheduler, Kelly, if I could get a specific date to come out because I was off for one day and I wanted to know if they could come out on that date. But she said no. She wouldn't even try to work with me with the date that I was off. It was in the dead summer and I was roasting in my home. The whole process took a little over a month. I told them that and they told me that other people had been waiting as long. I was like, "Okay.
Kelly gave me the earliest date they could come out but I wasn't sure if I could get off for that day. I asked her if she could plug me in for that slot and then I would call her back to say if we would be able to get that. I was going to see if my husband could get off on that date. But she said no. I said, "Well, ma'am, can you work with me? I'm trying to get this accomplished." Then she said that she would hold it for a few hours. They also wanted me to pay my out-of-pocket right then and I wasn't pleased with that either. If I had called somebody on my own, I would typically pay when the job is done, not before they even showed up.
I asked Kelly if I could speak to a manager but she said that he was in a meeting. I asked if he could call me back because I was really not pleased. Then she told me that most of the holdup was my warranty company's fault. I told her that I had issues with American Home Shield too but I wanted to address what was going on with Bell Cow. She told me that the manager's name was Ron and that she would leave him a message. He was supposed to get back to me when he got out of his meeting. But I guess he's still in a meeting because I never got a call back.
I also asked Kelly if she could tell me how long the install would take and what time the technicians would be coming out. But she said that they didn't know when the technicians would be out. Once the technicians came in that morning, they would give us a call when they were on the way. So there was no schedule between nine and five, which was very inconvenient as well. The technicians called early though, between 8:00 and 9:00 AM, and they said they were on their way. They finished about 3:00 and since the parts have been installed, the AC has been working fine again. It was just the process that was horrible. This was the first time I had ever used American Home Shield with a big replacement and I was very dissatisfied. The only thing that I was pleased with was that we didn't have to pay fully for that AC unit. That was the only good part about it. But other than that, I'm not pleased with the service at all.

The online process when I submitted the claim for the microwave, dryer, washer, and dishwasher was easy. I contacted the contractor, BJ Home Appliance, two days later and the contractor set up a time. The contractor was very good and had to make multiple trips. On one appliance, he had ordered the parts and had to come back later. He was pretty quick on that. The appliances are performing good now.

He told me what the problem was and then replaced the garbage disposal, which was what I wanted. American Home Shield does a good job and I would recommend them.

I was very impressed with the contractor that American Home Shield sent out to fix my air conditioner. The contractor told me that he was gonna come the following day, but he went the same day that I called to file a claim. He fixed the problem and I was very, very happy because the temperature was extremely hot and it got to 118. The only thing though is that it took a long time to get a representative. American Home Shield should improve on that or they should hire more people.

The dishwasher at my rental property stopped working. We then submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I checked on the status of my claim and it's under review, which I expect that to be that they're gonna end up having to replace the dishwasher.
As a property owner, I've been very happy with American Home Shield. They've improved the quality of their service quite a bit in the last few years. Back in the day when the only way to contact them was to be on hold for up to an hour or more, it was very frustrating. Now they've gotten their online service and they also have a chat system wherein if we have the ability to use either an iPad or a computer, we can talk to somebody within a reasonable amount of time. I've had excellent experience dealing with them. They provide good service. For the amount of money that I pay for their monthly premium, it's well worth it.

One of my AC systems was not working for a while. I turned it off for a few hours and turned it back on and it seemed to be working. But I called American Home Shield and submitting the claim was a very easy process. They sent a technician to find out why the unit is doing that. The guy who came out checked the Freon or Puron pressure in all the systems and realized that the radiator or condenser was covered with some sort of buildup from cottonwood trees. He cleaned all of that and it took care of the issue.
I've filed two other claims, one for the washing machine and our built-in refrigerator. They sent someone out to fix the washing machine, but for the refrigerator, the manufacturer doesn't make the needed part anymore. So the unit can't be repaired. But AHS offered to replace it up to the limits of our policy, which was $3000. It was great, but the new refrigerator was $9000. So in hindsight, I wish I had read through the policy a little bit more and added some additional coverage.

My A/C went bad. I submitted a claim to AHS online and I had to wait for four days until the A/C people came to see what was the problem. There were no people to come to on the weekends and I had to stay in a hotel room. The coil has a dripping leak and I had to change it and the coil was $400 which they covered. But the Freon was $800 at $80 a pound and AHS covered $10 a pound for me. Then, the issue was bad again. I called AHS and the people they assigned never showed up. So, I brought a company from outside to fix it and I paid out of my pocket.
The major issue was that they were not there when I needed them. I have a mother in dialysis and I have kids in the house. I need somebody to come. I’ve been with AHS for maybe six months and I didn’t choose them for anything except for the A/C and they let me down. I don’t know what was in my mind that first time to wait for four days. It's an A/C issue in Texas at 100˚. I should’ve have just brought somebody from the outside and give him a couple of $100 and a, “Thank you so much, bye.”

I have multiple properties with American Home Shield. Their customer service rep has been good whenever I file a claim over the phone. However, I don’t like that I have to hold a minimum of 30 minutes before I get assistance. Then, they do the basic thing and ask me what’s wrong. They email me the person's name and the telephone number so I can make appointments. AHS sends out good contractors but I wasn’t happy with Triple S Plumbing. They came to two of my properties the last month and I had two incidents in both different properties which were the same, so it made me feel that there was something going on. I felt that they wanted to make their own money. Their diagnosis was in a way where American Home Shield would not cover the claim and then they gave me an estimate of what the cost was gonna be so I can get the work done from them. I ended up paying them out of my pocket to have the plumbing issue fixed.

The man that came back wasn't even here for three minutes as he seemed to had just forgotten to do something. However, AHS took another $75 out of my account and I was really pissed. My oven's illumination stopped working and I couldn’t see what the temperature was. I called American Home Shield and a week later, Joe’s Appliances came and they were able to fix it. Anybody that has ever came from AHS has had good professionalism and I’m satisfied, but I got a claim right now that has been a little difficult. My AC was not working well and I paid $55 for Freon and I didn’t know that was something they had to do. It was disappointing that I gotta pay for Freon and it still didn’t work. The technician who initially looked at it didn’t report to American Home Shield the actual issue I was having. He said that everything was reading out fine but he didn’t follow it up. When the temperature was set for 72, it was only really reaching 76. So, right now, I have a window AC in my house to get the thermostat a little closer to a comfortable level. With the window unit, it’s only getting to about 74.
Also, where I am in Delaware, there’s not a lot of contractors, so our contractors are coming from over an hour away and that is an issue. I have a house in Maryland that I live at six months a year and I was thinking about possibly getting AHS on that house but the jury is still out on that one. I have an appointment on Monday for my AC unit and I’ll see how AHS manages that.

It was a long time. YMC called me and set up an appointment and I gave them the tenant's number to also coordinate through them. I always tell the company to not discuss things with tenants and to call me and tell me what's going on but for some reason, YMC didn't call me.
Whatever they did, they went on and fixed the issue. I ended up calling the tenant because it took so long to get the job done. That was really bizarre. Also, there’s language barrier. I don’t understand the contractor and the contractor doesn’t understand me when I explain that there is a problem. My warranties with American Home Shield are extremely valuable. I have so many properties that I'm paying them $800, but I've thought of jumping ship because I've been with them for a few years now.

They were professional and their speed of service in taking care of the problem was excellent. It was an after-hours call when I called it in, and they took care of me the very next morning. Everything seems to be working fine since the repair. However, I was disappointed with the Freon reimbursement. AHS is now only reimbursing $10 per pound of Freon, and in prior lifetimes of American Home Shield, when I’ve had service calls, Freon has always been covered, unless they’re not standard Freon. AC went out on my property three weeks ago. American Home Shield contracted with AZ Plumbing and Air for in West Palm for the service call. A quick google search rates this company 1 of 5 stars with terrible reviews. They came out on a Thurs and said they would not be able to fix the issue until Monday. Due to this I was forced to put the tenant up in a hotel over the weekend. Well less than 2 weeks after the "fix" the unit has stopped working again. Another call to American Home Shield on Thurs and I've been told the service provider cannot make it out until Monday to examine (keep in mind it's nearly 90 degrees).
I called and paid another a/c company to come out and service the unit. The company stated that the unit needs replacing. I've reached out to AHS 3 times over the last two days trying to figure out how to facilitate purchasing a new unit and have been put on hold each time (yesterday for 30+ minutes, today for 50+ minutes and 12+ minutes) before being hung up on. I'm now on hold for the 4th time in 2 days. I've started recording the calls as it's almost comical how horrendous their customer service is.

Each time I ask for a service, it's so many days later that a schedule is given. That doesn't really do anything for me. When my refrigerator broke, American Home Shield gave me a 10-day window. But you can't live without a refrigerator for 10 days. I had to get a new refrigerator. Another issue is that the contractors don't really care. They can keep coming to fix stuff temporarily. It's not like when you pay them that they really try to fix it. My AC broke in the beginning of July and the window I was given was three days. I managed to survive because I have another AC in one bedroom. But the contractor came to fix the AC three times. They stayed for 10 minutes and it didn't work. So I called again on a Friday and AHS gave me a date of Wednesday for the contractor to come fix the AC for the fourth time in one month.
But it was too much to be without an AC. I just called a company myself on a Saturday. They came and fixed it, and it still works. But they told me that it would break again and that they can't guarantee when but that I really needed a new AC. So I purchased a new AC. So what's my benefit in keeping American Home Shield? Zero. It's like a scam. I have nothing against the people who work there. But I think their policy is unreasonable. I had to beg for a speedier schedule for an AC in Florida in the summer. For a refrigerator, I had to fight for everything.

We have two AC units and the upstairs one was not cooling down. We submitted the claim American Home Shield online via their webpage. I tried calling, but I can't get through. There was a long wait time, so I just did the online. This is the third time I've had to call them regarding the AC units and each time was via the internet. The contractors came out. The capacitor blew up, so they had to replace it. It was what we were told and it was a quick fix. All the contractors were great, very knowledgeable, and helpful.
The first issue was the downstairs unit. There was some water leaking from it, which turned out to be condensation that was leaking and dripping on top of a unit and on the floor. The contractors put some insulated sealant on it, but within a week or so, there was some more condensation leaking, so they came back out. Ever since, there hasn’t been an issue. The next time was the upstairs unit. The contractor said that there was probably a power surge to our house and that caused it to explode.
We've had a good experience with American Home Shield, although it's difficult to reach somebody on the phone. However, it's easy enough to do it online and within a couple of minutes, I get a very quick response from the company. It's been the same company each time that came out and usually, within a minute or so, I get an email or a text message from them saying that they’ll be contacting us shortly. I would prefer doing it that way. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I would never use American Home Shield again. They are horrible. When my entire HVAC system went out, they first sent somebody who told us we needed to replace the whole system. The following week, we called American Home Shield three times and, finally, they believed that we couldn't get a hold of the contractor. They tried to get a hold of them as well but they couldn't. Another week had gone by. It’s the beginning of July and we're in a heatwave. The rep at AHS said they're gonna drop the contractor and then send somebody else out.
They sent somebody else out and they went through the whole thing. They gave a whole estimate, which turned out to be a completely sub par unit. When I went online, it got nothing but one-star reviews. Everyone said within two years the unit will break. So I asked the person, "What if I don't want that unit?" That person said that I could bring my own person. My issue has been going on for four weeks and they are just telling me now that I could do it.
So I did it and it was an $8,500 job, and AHS gave me $2,800 for it. The work was done over three weeks ago but they have not acknowledged they even received the work order from me. Furthermore, I had to fight for it because they wanted to give me $2,000 originally. I didn’t even get the top-of-the-line HVAC. I just wanted something that wouldn’t break down in two years. And when I went online and called three different HVAC people to ask what they think about the unit, the one the contractor wants us to put in there. They said they wouldn't touch it.
Now, my washing machine went out and I'm paying out of pocket because I don’t even want to go through AHS. It would probably take two months before they give me a little bit of money. Furthermore, I don’t wanna spend 40 minutes on hold waiting to find out that nobody knows if it’s in process. It’s aggravating. The email says as soon as you get all your documentation in, this check will be issued but I still haven’t seen anything or heard from them. AHS is giving you not even close to what you’re paying, and you gotta jump through hoops for all of it. And it took over a month and a half to get the HVAC done. If somebody would ask if they should get insurance, I would say not to get it from AHS. Just pay out of pocket because, by the time you’re done, you wanna pull your hair out of your head.

I’ve called AHS about three different problems. One was a leak in the wall. We’re in a very rural location and it took them a little while, four days specifically, to find a plumber. I just took care of the leak up until that point. When they came out, they fixed it. Then I called them one time with an air conditioning unit that was not cooling and they charged it with Freon. Unfortunately, it’s an older unit so the Freon cost me considerable bit. I paid the $100 plus another $120 to get some Freon. Then I had another AC unit that caused a problem and that took a while. I was without my second air conditioner for nine weeks, during the hottest period in Alabama. It also has multiple problems. First the coil was bad and they ordered a coil unit. When they finally came in to replace it and they took the coil out, the heat exchanger was damaged so they had to replace the entire unit.
Because I have an elderly person that lives in the home, they authorized money to get a portable unit to cool off her area. Fortunately, we didn’t need it because the contractor was able to get that unit in very quickly after they did the authorization, and that was within 3 days. He even came out on Saturday to finish up which was surprising. We were grateful for that.
American Home Shield did a great job. I hear a lot of negative things out there but I think people just expect them to be able to respond instantly and always to their satisfaction and that’s not how insurance policies work that I’m familiar with. I would recommend them. With a house that was built in 1974, it was a good idea for us. My AC unit was not something that I expected to go out because this was a newer one on the house, so I’m very thankful that I got AHS.

The main drain was backing up into the lower level bathroom and laundry room. I called it in with American Home Shield and they sent a guy out who snaked it and got it cleared. It was a clog in the main drain away from the house. While he was here, there was a problem with the toilet leaking and he fixed that too and did a good job with it. Every time I've ever dealt with AHS, they have been professional. Right away within 5-10 minutes after I got off the phone, I got the work order. They text me with all the information and the information of the contractor that would be coming out. Then that the contractor would be contacting me in a certain amount of time.
I've been with American Home Shield for over 11 years and they've always taken care of me no matter what the problem was. They make sure their customer service is exceptional but their follow-up is what really is above and beyond. They either call directly or text me and they are following up constantly to make sure that everything is still okay. Also, my interaction with the contractors has always been exceptional. There was one issue earlier in the year with a contractor that didn't do what they were supposed to do and American Home Shield followed that up and corrected it by sending out another technician to fix the problem. Plus, they assured me that the technicians that they sent that I had a problem with would never be sent out again. It just blew my mind. In fact, I've recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people. As long as I am a homeowner, I'll have American Home Shield because they've always exceeded all my expectations.

I wanted to get the locks changed in the house that I had just moved in to. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and I heard back within the time that they said they would. The tech called me up and was flexible with when she could come out with my schedule. The service was great and very professional.

My air conditioning wasn't getting cold. It had a lot of condensation and the pipe was frozen. I called the claim in with AHS and they sent out a tech from Superior Energy. He was great and efficient. He handled the problem, took pictures, and showed me what was going on. He made sure I was understanding what he saw and showed me the frozen pipe. I would’ve never saw that because it was outside and he had to open up something to show me. He also wound up putting Freon in there and I needed it for two units. However, I thought the service call took care of the price of the Freon, but it turned out that I would only get $10 per unit and I would have to pay the rest. I had a credit, so that part didn’t bother me. But I still had to come out my pocket with $100 something.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for a while now and this whole policy changed so much. I'm already paying the service fee then I’m putting more money out of my pocket and I don't understand why. Before, I paid the service call and whatever the problem was, they would fix it. If they couldn’t fix it, they would replace it. Also, their price went up. It’s $500 something a year now and they went from $50 for a service call to $75.

I submit my American Home Shield claims online and for the most part, the site is fine but I don’t like that I can't add anything to the status of any request. A service that I had about 10 months ago was a complete disaster and American Home Shield’s backend failed. I called for a dishwasher repair. Then, somebody called, scheduled an appointment, came out, took a look at the dishwasher, did whatever he could do then but he had to order a part and he was gonna come back later to install it. A few weeks had gone by and finally, the part was back ordered. Then the company that originally came out to my house had dispatched all of their own repair people to some job in another state and they were shutting their office down for about three months. So, they had to farm out the job to another company.
When I finally heard from this other company, they wanted to schedule an appointment within the next couple of days but due to some work that I had, I couldn’t accommodate. I countered with a couple of days the following week but they couldn’t accommodate that and their main reasoning was that they were “doing a favor for Home Shield” as opposed to getting my request taken care of. The woman I was speaking to then told me that she would look at their schedule and that she would give me a call back but that was the last I ever heard from them. A few different times I reinstated the requests, once through the phone snd once through the web and every time, the status of the request went back to “Could not contact client,” which was not true. I had voiced that to American Home Shield but it got nowhere. I got tired of dealing with it that I essentially finished the repair job myself.
I've had some other dealings with AHS. I had an issue with my air conditioner, my heater and a recent issue with the garbage disposal and there were some collateral damage from doing the repair with the AC but they fixed that a couple of days later and all of those things went fine. Whatever company AHS farmed it out to reached out, scheduled an appointment, came out, did the work, and everybody was happy. But that particular one with the dishwasher was disappointing with the fact that AHS didn’t do any follow-up even after I expressed my displeasure with how it was going. It was a job that never really got officially completed. The coverage for the cost though is almost worth the cost of a headache every once in a while because it had saved me a truckload of money.

I’ve always had warranties but I didn’t like what have had for a few years so I looked around to see what else there was around online. I did a bunch of comparisons and then, I decided to go with American Home Shield even though they were not the valued price offered in the market. They're larger and they would have a big enough network of repair affiliates that they can handle anything really quickly. I went online, indicated what I needed, then Home Shield connected me up with the repair people right away who then came out and fixed my washing machine. But they had to come a few times. They had to get parts and brush things, and it was another people they needed to replace after they came back out and fixed the part. The guy realized there were more faulty parts but they came and did it.

My sink kept backing up and I could not get it to drain at all. I called AHS and they sent a plumbing company out. The tech said that they couldn't do anything because there was plastic piping where the disposal was. That's a rule of AHS which is peculiar because other places don't have that rule. I called them back and said I wanted somebody out here that could do something. They sent another plumber out, AMPM, and the tech was very nice. He put a snake in the sink and it drained, and it seemed to be okay.
However, I just had somebody else leave here because it started to back up again a few days later. Now, it looks like there are some big things that have to be done. I made the claim over the phone and I don't know if I have more to do. I paid what AHS said I had to pay and I haven't heard from them since, except when they texted or emailed me to give an opinion of what my service was. But they said they would not charge me for the second person, so I appreciate that.

My air conditioner unit stopped working so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it over the phone and it was somewhat easy to do. However, it did not readily present itself to speak to a live representative. It would be better to talk to a real live person instead of going through an automated system. I would be able to get it through a lot quicker. Nevertheless, everything was perfect. The guy who came out addressed the problem. The first guy came in and out and said he needed to do a new unit. He also told me the amount if I wanted him to do the entire unit. I said yes and he said he would come out in two days and he did it.
After the repair, the AC unit has been so much better. I love Landmark, the contractor I've used, because I’ve had numerous poor experiences with them but working with this and getting it done on the first try was great. The one thing I really appreciated was the fact that they didn’t try to band-aid the situation. They went for the fix. I've also recommended American Home Shield to my dad. I told him about my experience and that he should have this home warranty.

The faucet that's attached to the shower head and the tube that connects the water to the head broke. Also, the hot water knob on my sink wouldn’t turn off completely, so there’s a constant drip. I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone because I have to always request for them to connect me with a company that does weekend visits or after 4:00 o’clock visits. The contractor that they sent this time knew what he was doing. He got the sink with the hot water portion of it cleaned and got that done quickly. Then he had to reschedule to come out to fix the one in the shower but he did it quickly too and now everything is good.
In the past though, when I file a claim on the phone, AHS automatically assigns me to someone and I always had difficulty being reassigned to another company if they can’t do the timeframe that I needed. I had to have the first company cancel it and they have to contact AHS to tell them why they’re canceling it. It was not an easy switch and I usually had to call different people to get a new company to come out. It would have been nice if I could just call AHS back and they could just switch it. But everything else has been pretty good and I would definitely recommend AHS. I’ve had other warranty companies over the years and AHS has been the best so far.

My experience with American Home Shield was wonderful. We had an AC issue, but before I called American Home Shield, I had contacted somebody else and they came. They cleaned up my AC and they told me that I didn't have enough Freon. We could have called them back and do $100 of Freon in there, but we said that we have American Home Shield so we called them.
The contractor that came out said that they don't pay for Freon. However, we were not aware of that, so it ended up costing $340, with $100 coming here and the $200 Freon. I wish they told us before that they don't cover Freon. I also wish they had different prices or deductible for each item. If you have a lot of issues in the house and you have to pay $100, it adds up. And for the little, minor things like a microwave or stove, if I have to pay $100 just to fix the handle, it's expensive.
The contractors sent for the AC were wonderful and knowledgeable though. They called me back right away, the same day that I had submitted an email and they said they were gonna stop by between 2:00 and 5:00, and they came at around 4:00, so it was perfect. I usually submit my claims with American Home Shield online and then they would contact me within so many hours. It's quick, but I would call the next time. That would be better so that if I have any questions, I could ask them.

We've had a good experience submitting claims with AHS. We usually do it online and their website is easy to navigate. When the ice cube maker stopped working and we filed a claim, the contractor was out here in a day or two. Then they ordered a part, came back promptly and replaced it. The refrigerator has been good ever since. We also had to have the furnace with a bad switch fixed in April. The contractor came out that same day and fixed it so we had heat. And then for the garage door, the wires were frayed in the wall. The garage door company came out the next day and fixed it.
Then for the most recent issue we've had, we have hot water during the summertime. The pipes are in the attic trapped with hot air and so, the water never cooled down in the pipes. We could run it, but it would take about 10 minutes to get cool water which is if you’re conserving your water, that’s kind of a waste. The turnaround time with this claim was a bit longer because AHS didn’t know who to contact. I didn’t know what to describe the issue as well and they didn’t know either. AHS doesn't have the categories to select from, but they tried to find somebody. That was when we finally decided to submit it as a faucet issue to get somebody to come out here. The contractor did well, though. He said we can blow in more insolation.
We've had a very good experience with AHS for the little things we’ve had them fixed and they’ve addressed the issues. I’ve been a homeowner for a while and have American Home Shield warranty on the house that I just sold to make sure that the buyers don't come after me. AHS's purpose is there and I’ve been happy with their service so far.

However, the first contractor that they sent told me that he was too old to crawl under the house, which I was pissed off about because I took off work. Then he had to transfer the ticket to another company and they told me that I had to get a new access door on the side of my house. So, it never got resolved. My friend’s dad, who’s a retired HVAC, came out and he said that there was no reason that the contractor couldn’t fix it like it was and that I didn’t need to get an access door for them to repair what was needed to be repaired.
I noticed that AHS hadn’t charged me the deductible, so I wasn’t too worried about it but then the charge went through. I have to call back the people who came out here and find out if they’re gonna send somebody back out here to fix it and who doesn’t mind crawling under the house. I called American Home Shield back and they sent the guys out who did a nitrogen pressure test on it but it wasn't accurate. They then said that the condenser unit needed to be replaced because the leak was in the condenser. The contractor was speedy but they weren’t super thorough. They wanted to replace the whole unit, so I contacted somebody else, have them come out and double-check everything, and they found the leak exactly where it was. We were able to repair it for way cheaper than replacing the outside unit, even cheaper than the claim price. The claim would have paid out $1,500, but I still would have had to pay about $280.

They sent the appliance company back out to look at a thing that was already diagnosed. I had to take off work for a second time to accommodate this. THEN they went ahead and rejected my claim. Only they called and said it was already rejected previously BEFORE the guy came out the second time (directly contradicting what they said last time).
They said bugs broke my oven. Not software bugs. Literal bugs. Pest damage is in their exclusions clause. I just bought this house and had it fumigated. The entire point of having a home warranty is to warrant against exactly this type of scenario where you are buying a house and you have no idea what could be going on with the appliances. Nothing was found to be amiss in the home inspection with the oven, of course.
If there is ANY chance there could be bugs found in the house you are purchasing or if you are buying an older house (which will definitely have bugs somewhere), read the exclusions carefully and try to find a home warranty that doesn't have this exclusion. AHS will be useless to you if they find a dead bug. OR see if the seller can just credit you the cost of the home warranty instead so that you can fix the issues yourself. If I had had the cost of the premium plus the $75 service visit fee on hand, I could have just purchased a new oven and I wouldn't have had to go through all this.

Did my best to explain to AC Repair Company #2 on their prior visit on 6/11/2018 the line was full and that their AC tech should have found the leak as it was clear there was a leak and if he had fixed it then there would not be a need to refill the coolant. AHS still refused to cover the AC coolant changes and claim that this is my responsibility even though since 6/11/2018 I have followed every process to ensure the issue gets resolved so I would not be in this situation now. AHS still refused to do anything. After two months and close to 20+ hours on the phone with AHS customer service agent (idiots), we still haven't gotten our AC issues fixed. I called AHS to let them know the unit was not cooling and they called D&D Plumbing to let them know the unit was not cooling and after several days D&D called to let me know what day and time they would be coming out to look at the unit so I took off work so I could be home and of course they didn't come so that was one of many work days I missed waiting on this horrible company.
To make a long story short my air conditioner is still not working and I have been living in 100 degree temp since May and nobody seems to care. I have called AHS multiple times begging and pleading for help, "Please send another vendor so I can get some relief" and they either hang up on you or make promises and never keep them. Water is pouring from the unit and has ruined two floors and of course I told AHS and they said it wasn't their problem. It was D&D Plumbing.

I obtained a Home Warranty for the sole purpose of covering repairs on major appliances. Unfortunately, my air conditioning went out over two weeks ago. I put in a service request on July 25th. The first technician came out on that following Sunday. He stated that it was in need of a new coil and drip pan. However, I needed to expand my closet and I would need to pay that cost. This did not make sense to me since my closet is larger than most other homes. I tried for two days to get a hold of the contractor.
After several failed attempts I reached out to AHS. The representative tried and could not reach them either. I also did research on this company and they have a 1.5 star with the same complaint of being unreachable. When the AHS could not reach the technician he approved that I contact my own technician. He said with record heat and an elderly person living with me this was a matter of health and safety and would expedite this for us. I had a technician out the very next day ready to do the repairs. He contacted AHS as advised. AHS told him they needed to speak with a Supervisor and would get back to him. An hour later I received an email from AHS with another number for a technician.
When I reached out to AHS I was told my technician was too much and they had the right to get a second opinion. So here comes Superior sent by AHS for a third inspection. Mind you, this is after hours of being on hold with AHS and hours missed at work to meet with these technicians. I was told by AHS second technician that I needed to replace an unbroken furnace for $2500 in order for him to replace the coil and drip pan. I questioned AHS on this and was first told it was not covered. After requesting to speak with a Supervisor I received a return call and was told the repairs would be covered and I would just have to pay $500 for ductwork and a couple of other things. I was told by, Patricia in the Authorization Department, the parts were ordered and would arrive at the technician's shop on 08/08.
I left a few messages for Kevin, a supervisor, asking for an ETA, he never called me back. So today I call and after battling with a Rep in the Authorization Dept at AHS, I am told the parts are on back order and there is no ETA. He refused to let me speak with anyone with authority. He stated he was unable to transfer me to a manager. Two weeks later I am without air conditioning in my home. It has been averaging 105 degrees outside and my home has been 90 degrees inside with fans. I have my 82 year old mother living with me and this has taken a toll on her. A week ago I requested a cash in lieu thinking maybe this would speed up the process. I was told it takes about 3 days to get an offer. Here it is a week later and now today's rep says it takes 1 week and 1 day to get a cash offer. Give me break. This has been a complete nightmare.
Good morning Kimberly,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that you have experienced and your request for the CIL. I see that an offer was made to you on 08/09. I would be glad to speak with you and get this resolved.

My old washing machine had a water leak. I set up a service appointment with AHS and the repairman came a couple of days later. He said it would be over $200 to fix the machine. AHS suggested a replacement instead. They gave me a choice of 2 GE machines and I chose Model #GTW490HCJ4WS. The machine was delivered and installed on 4-30-18. When I washed a few loads of clothes it would vibrate and move. The thumping with the spin did not sound normal so I called AHS to find out what to do.
Originally they were going to have a repairman come out for $125 service call. When I reminded them this machine was under warranty they gave me the number to GE and an appointment was set up with Appliance Central. Two repairmen came out on 8-7 and after checking it out told me it wasn't filling up with water like it should. Then checking it out further told me it needed a motherboard. A brand new machine and already needed parts. They also told me they've had many calls on this particular model. If I had known AHS was offering machines with such a terrible track record I would have bought one that I would have researched first. This machine is a real disappointment. And now I'm without a washer for at least 2 weeks. Very dissatisfied customer.

This company sucks. My AC is broken, it’s now August, has been broke since late June. They want to repair the coil on a 20 yr old unit that takes fluid that is outlawed so I would have to pay 1300 out of my pocket. I have a neighbor that does HVAC he said he could replace the whole unit for 1500 to 2000. (That’s the cost of the repair.) But AHS will not cash me out UNLESS I pay 10,000 to their contractor for a new one and I would have to wait 30 day after it’s installed to see if they give me $900 toward the replacement. What a joke. Just keep in mind they are for profit business, and when it comes down to being there for you, they are not. But they will gladly take your money.
Good morning Ms. Gobel,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address the repairs and cash out request to have the system replaced.

If I could give a minus rating it would be -5 stars. Go to their website and try to find a place where you can communicate to the company. A complaint in writing about one of their vendors... "exactly". You will not find one because they don't want to hear them most likely. Then try calling their customer service, and ask for a supervisor or ask where you can write a complaint to about their vendor they sent to your home, "exactly" nobody to talk to and if you ask they say it will take 24-48 hours before anybody calls you back. Ask the customer service rep you talk to on the phone about how you can make a complaint and they direct you to the AHS website but is unable to tell you where on the website to do that. And there isn't actually a place on their website anyway.
AHS uses a very unprofessional company to do its repairs in Palm Springs CA, Appliance Repair Experts. Far from being professional, their technicians walked into my house covered in grease and walked up/down my staircase leaving the grease on my walls. Oh, they ordered the wrong part, of course they had the correct model number of the appliance. Still not repaired, going on 3 weeks. Call and complain to that contracted company that AHS uses because you couldn't complain to the company you pay for your warranty and you will probably think you are talking to the technician's sister who isn't really concerned about anything.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We've had AHS for years and we've always had good service with them taking care of stuff when we had things happen. They have always been professional. We've had issues with some of the contractors that they've sent out, but they've rectified those real quick. Instead of having to pay out-of-pocket for the covered items, it's a lot cheaper for them to pay the service call and have them pay the rest. We have a plumbing leak that hasn't been fixed yet, and AHS finally found a plumber that has ordered parts that they need to fix it. Overall we're pleased with the service that we've had with American Home Shield. This one is just taking a little bit longer to do because of the extent of trying to find the leak in the slab.

On the day before I got off from work, the AC was coming on but it wasn’t blowing cold air through. I got a hold of American Home Shield’s claims department and I explained to the rep that my wife is seven months pregnant and she was irritated. AHS had a good team that took care of the claim in a very timely manner. They sent out Coaches HVAC to my house the next day and the contractors were very professional. They talked to me when they came back down from the roof and told me what was going on. They tried to troubleshoot it and did everything they could. The coolant and everything inside of the AC needed to be replaced, and they got everything up and running. I was surprised that AHS had that good of a team and that good of a response time on what happened. I haven't even had an experience like this with my own bank.

He didn't chat, which was good, but he let me know what was going on. It was also nice that he kept me informed. When he left the house and went to his truck, he always told me that he was gonna go get a part and he was not leaving. He replaced the motor and cleaned up after himself. He got the job done and left without any delays. It was a good experience.

I had two things repaired and both were pretty good. I started out on the phone through the automated system and then I put in two claims at the same time. When I put in the first one, American Home Shield pushed me over to an operator which I didn’t strictly care for as I don’t see why I couldn’t put all claims in at the same place. But their service works and they get their repairs down at a reasonable cost. They’re not always the fastest but they get the job done at the end of the day.

My first experience with American Home Shield was for our refrigerator and it was just textbook. However, our AC issue is taking a long time and summer is halfway over already. When we turned the AC on this summer, it wasn’t working so we called American Home Shield. They sent someone out who told them that they were not gonna do anything. So, I called again and the rep told me that she’ll send out a second opinion.
Nelson Air came out and based on their findings, AHS said they were was gonna fix the AC which happened seven weeks ago. They were having a discrepancy with Nelson Air about ordering an evap coil. Finally, they relented and they ordered one. I’m still waiting to hear from Nelson Air on when they’re gonna install it. But for the most part, my wife and I are extremely happy that we decided to go with AHS. We have the security of knowing that everything in our house is under warranty if something goes bad. We’re gonna be with them for life. I have recommended AHS to my mom and other people. I just wish that our AC claim wouldn’t take so long.

We thought that the house was cooling, but apparently, it wasn't cooling down as much. We weren't sure if the reason was the extreme heat or something was slowing down. We saw some similarities to the AC problem in my grandmother’s house before and we were wondering if something went out, which is what we were looking into.
We submitted a claim to AHS online and it was easy. But it was hard getting in contact with the contractor at first. AHS said they would have someone call me so it was a hit or miss thing for a minute. But the contractor who showed up was good. He looked at everything and thoroughly explained what he was looking at. He told us that everything looked good and that it was just hot outside. He did a good job and the AC has been fine since then. So, I haven’t had any repairs done by them but I was satisfied with the experience. I didn’t even use the warranty but everything has been all right. I feel like if something would have been wrong, I’m sure they would have taken care of it. And I can't say that they took care of me but they definitely sent somebody out and that has given me the opportunity to have things looked at, so I can’t complain.

It kept arising, so I called back and the second tech pretty much told me that he couldn't find out what's wrong with it. A person came out to fix my refrigerator the first time and blew out the back of it ‘cause they said all it needed was to have the coil cleaned. I was working at that time at the kitchen table and 45 minutes after they left, I went to drink water and there was water all over my floor. When I looked in the back, the pipeline going to my icemaker was leaking. I called the refrigerator kid and he said that he's out of town and can't come back. I called American Home Shield, and they said that they have to allow him to come back out. They put in another order and they were supposed to come out the next day so I didn’t go to work but they never contacted me.
I called American Home Shield and finally, they allowed me to get another refrigerator guy to come out. I called the refrigerator guy and he came out Friday morning because he was booked. He came out and looked at the refrigerator too because after the guy who cleaned out the coils left, the refrigerator was still doing the same thing. The other refrigerator guy informed me that it was actually the field and the refrigerator wasn’t any good anymore. He even told me that the guy who cleaned the coils did not do his job.
He said that he put a temperature gauge inside my refrigerator to see what it was doing ‘cause it was going from cold to not so cold and then it only make a few pieces of ice. He added that it was not making any ice was because it's not cold enough to make ice. He also told me the pipe in the back had to be fixed by a plumber and he couldn’t touch that so I put a bowl under it. Once he did his determination, he got back on the phone with American Home Shield and got everything authorized.
I called American Home Shield back and they said that they’d send out a plumber. The plumber went here and fixed it properly. He was really good. We got the order to do a new refrigerator. The original people I got to contact on Monday sent me an email saying that they tried to contact me but they didn’t get a response. I sent them back an email and told them that they never contacted me. Still, I got a phone call from them on Tuesday and they said they were calling to set up my appointment. I said to them that I already had to go elsewhere and they were supposed to come back out last Thursday and fix it but nobody bothered to call me. The lady thanked me and just hung up the phone. No apology, no nothing.
When I went on Google to look at the first refrigerator person, their rating was 1.9. I let American Home Shield know about it and they said that they don’t really ever use that to which I said that they might wanna consider it because that company was terrible. Even in the comments, people were saying that the company really doesn’t wanna work. American Home Shield should try to choose the people that should come out to fix things in the house and research who they're gonna contract with because they're gonna be taking care of their customers.
In terms of AHS' customer service, it depends on who I'll get on the phone. The first person I talked to just put another order, but the last lady I talked to went above and beyond. She got where I could go outside and get an authorization. AHS could draft to their customer service individual to put some training involved in and maybe thinking more on what if it was the kind of situation. They definitely have staff that will do that and those that will just follow a protocol.
Overall, American Home Shield is great because they let the other refrigerator company come out and their technician really assessed my refrigerator. It just took a little bit longer and I had to be a little bit more patient, but they followed through and get everything done. I now have a new refrigerator and the people that came out to put in the new refrigerator was fantastic and very professional.

We have two air conditioner units, an upstairs and downstairs unit, and the one upstairs would not cool at all; the unit outside was not kicking on. The air handler upstairs would run and blow and blow and blow, and it’s never cooling. And so American Home Shield's contractor came out and looked at it. The guy said he could not tell us what was wrong with it because everything appeared fine. He added two pounds of Freon and he ran water through the upstairs loop just to clear the drain for the system.
At first, for around three days, everything worked fine. And then it would stop again and not run. But that would be on a Friday. So in order to get service back out and make a schedule, it was gonna be Monday before anybody can come back out. Well, because I wasn’t gonna live in heat, I went outside and slapped the side of the air conditioner and it starts running. I kinda had an idea what’s wrong with it. There’s a relay in there that runs operator on. It wasn’t operating and it’s like I would hear it click, but it wouldn’t kick on. So I just smack the side of it, and it kicked on and would run. I had to do that about three times, always in the late evening. It has ran normal all day and then when we go to bed and it’s blowing hot air, it just wasn’t going well. Now, it’s been fine for the last 30 days.
American Home Shield offered that if we are to have a problem, we should let them know and then they’ll get an emergency call placed and get it taken care of. The rep was over the top friendly telling me everything but I knew that there was nothing they were going to be able to do because I can’t make the problem happen. It’s no use in telling them to come and repair it when they’re gonna be like, “Okay, what’s wrong?” I’m like, “It won’t start.” But then they can get it to start and then it runs fine.

I have a super terrible experience with American Home Shield. Half of our house went out of power. We have lived for three years in this house and that was the first time it happened. The electric guy came four days later after we called and reported, so there were two kid’s bedrooms without power, as well as the cooking gas, the bathroom, and the patio. The guy said there was a short in the house, and he needed to find out where it was. So, he started opening up outlets and fixed it. But after one hour, they put together his instruments and he said he had to leave, and just did the partial.
The kid’s bedrooms were still out of power, and he said they were unfixable yet and that he needed more hours to fix that. He needed to get approval for more hours to work to get the job done, so I said, “Okay, perfect." He promised me he would come back. I even talked to American Home Shield and they said, “As soon as we get the report, we will get in more hours so we can continue to fix it.” After that, however, nobody was coming. I called back and they said that electric reported that it’s overloaded. I said that if it is overloaded, why would he start working on the house if it was not covered by their policy? Why did he fix for one hour, different outlets and stuff, and I don’t know if he broke it more?
They then said that they will send a second opinion. The second guy came, and I explained to him the situation. But the second opinion went, “No, there is a short in the bedroom. We will bring new lighting for you.” He also said, “But I cannot patch anything because somebody else already started fixing it. I don’t know whether he messed it up or he fixed it, so I can’t touch anything.” He further said, “If he starts working, he has to come and finish it. That’s the policy.” I said that was fine.
After that, American Home Shield said that the second opinion said it was overloaded too, so they were not gonna cover. But, I said that the second guy told me a totally different thing. Also, AHS told me I have to pay $100 for the second opinion. I said, “But he did not patch anything. He just showed up. He just heard from me somebody else already started working in the house." He said, "I cannot touch anything because he already started.” I also asked AHS to send me the report copy, but they never sent any. So, after 10 days with no electricity, where my kids were sleeping under the candlelight, I hired some private electrician, and he said, “There is a short at the house and that’s nothing to do with overloading.” He eventually fixed it up, and I paid from my pocket. I also went and reported to the Better Business Bureau on them. But they lied to them, and they told their story.
We are sorry to hear about this unpleasant experience regarding your services. We would like to contact you to follow up regarding this matter. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist.
Thanks!

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone for an air conditioning unit. The response time was very good considering the timing when we had the 100-degree weather. However, the first guy didn't fix it right, so the second person had to come out. When the second person came out, he put some Freon in it. At that time, the new buyer moved in and had gone to New York for a week for her business. When she came back, the air conditioner wasn't working. The Freon had all leaked out, so she was really upset.
I told them we needed to stay with American Home Shield, but they chose somebody else and I couldn't call AHS back to fix what didn't get fixed. It was a little disappointing because it was the downstairs air conditioning unit and it was a big house, so she was fit to be tied because it was 107 degrees and we couldn't get anybody back to fix it. When we had to call for the third time, they weren't able to get out for about three days, so she had called the one that had taken over the service.
I have used American Home Shield, except for two occasions in five or seven years, and I've only called American Home Shield because I bought it for myself when I bought a new home. I also got my daughter a new home and we pay month-to-month, so I really love American Home Shield. Other than the fact that I only call using American Home Shield, what happened was just an isolated thing. In the past, they've been fabulous to work with, although the guys were really busy and all overworked, but it won't change the fact that I'll be calling American Home Shield again every time or recommending them. Their rep, Mary, is the main reason I started using American Home Shield. She takes care of things, but she happened to be on vacation that week when that one issue happened. Mary is wonderful whenever I call her and she's right on it usually within a couple of hours.

When the capacitor of the AC went out, submitting the claim was a lot better than it used to be. The hold time was less and the response and service were faster, and that made a big difference. I try to use the same contractors that have come out and that I have liked. The contractor, Right Appliance, has always been excellent. Silver Dollar was the contractor that came out for my claim the AC. We’ve used them before and they've been very good. But I had a bad experience with a plumber that was awful that had come out at one point. Nevertheless, it is easy to request for a certain contractor as long as they service the area. I've recommended American Home Shield.

They have done excellent repairs but it would be nice to be able to upgrade, downgrade or change things with the service package that I have online, like have a pick and choose menu. Overall, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. They replaced a stove and microwave combination unit and that was a very positive experience. They’re also always prompt to schedule the service guys. One time, our pool had a leak in it so I called up American Home Shield. Then I found out that they don’t cover things that are underground. They wouldn’t cover a water testing. So I spent $75 just to be told that they can’t service it. But the guy was very clear and concise about it. He was gonna charge me $300 for a water test. And I did check two other places and that was the going rate for water testing.
However, there is one experience that I was really disappointed in. It did not live up to the level of customer service that I expected. Recently, our garage door stopped opening and closing completely so we called the service guy out there. American Home Shield sent out Ace of Garage out of Winter Park, Florida. When the technician got there, I told him several times that the motor was not working and that that was what he needed to check. But he did not check the motor at all. He proceeded to tell me it was a balancing issue, that it wouldn’t be covered under American Home Shield and that repairing it would cost me about $500. I knew from experience that that was an extraordinary number. Usually, a service in balance will only cost between $30 and $75. But I said fine.
But I had to call American Home Shield again and do another service call because the motor never got looked at and the garage door still didn’t open and close. So the technician came out again and said that that time, the sensors were jammed and that was why the motor was not working. I was not contesting the fact that they were jammed. The unit is older and we live by the ocean so it was a complete possibility that they were jammed. But my garage door, the Genie, was set up such that the sensors are completely independent from the motor. You can touch the wires of the sensors and you won’t get electrocuted. And the sensors were designed for things that get in the way. If there's a child running underneath the garage door, the sensor prevents it from closing on the child. The sensor has nothing to do with the actual opening and closing of the garage door. That’s entirely dependent on the motor. But he still did not look at the motor.
He even told me not to call American Home Shield because it was a waste of my time and his time. So at that point in time, I called American Home Shield up and told the problem to the representative. They said they would get a supervisor on the phone but I never got a call back. The second time I called, the representative told me that because of the way the notes were written and because of the sensors, I could not get another person out there. I could not request a different service company to go out there and I would have to pay another $75.
I understand that there are certain things that are not covered with American Home Shield. But I know that the motors are in fact covered. Even so, I was willing to meet them halfway. I asked if I could possibly get refunded on the $75 because at that point in time, it had already been several weeks and my husband just went ahead and fixed the garage himself. And the problem was, of course, the motor. We replaced the motor and the garage works perfectly now. But American Home Shield did not refund me the money so I proceeded to get on Facebook. I left several messages but they didn’t respond to any. So I was very disappointed with this.
There are multiple points of concern here but mostly it's that this particular service company is gouging people. Because they think they're getting these customers through American Home Shield, they’re gonna gouge the customers by sorting money out of them. That’s really ridiculous. This has been my biggest headache thus far. Other than this, my experiences with American Home Shield have been fairly positive. But people need to go into this warranty with some caution. Not every experience is going to be a positive experience.

I have two claims with American Home Shield at the same time right now. I started with the refrigerator freezer and that one hasn’t been resolved completely. The person came out right away, but the freezer is still acting up and I have to deal with the door not having a perfect seal. I’m duct taping the freezer door and they’re coming back out. I was initially delighted with that claim, but I wasn’t so delighted with what happened. When the person came out on the 30th, I asked how long it was good for ‘cause we paid a $100. He said that it was good for 90 days. However, the freezer started heating up again. I called the company and they said that they don't come back out and that I had to call AHS. I didn’t appreciate that. It was a follow-up and I have to spend more time doing this.
When I first talked to them yesterday, Thursday, they said they could come out by Monday, but the first time they could come out was the next day. They had contacted me on a Friday at 5:00 and told me they could be here by Monday. When I called, I asked what their next available date was and the rep said Monday. By the time I called back, just two hours later, she said she couldn’t commit until Tuesday. It was a redo of a mistake they made, so it was a little frustrating.
I also said to them that the guy told me it's a bolt that's loosening up and it makes the door not attached really well to the tracking thing which is making the seal open. I said that if that’s the case, I really don’t want them coming and having this happen three times. Every time that happens and if I can’t catch it, I can lose my freezer and all the food, and it overheats the refrigerator. I have to figure out how to empty everything out and if the whole thing goes bad, then I have to get a new one. The person is supposed to come out on Monday at 8:00 and I hope they get there on time ‘cause I’m going to have a colonoscopy at 4:00. I don’t really want the freezer people to come out three times. I’m giving them a second chance to fix it, but if it happens a third time, then I will call AHS.
I also have the second claim because something is wrong with my stove. The gas is too high and I get a torch instead of a flame. It’s torching up. A guy said he’s gonna come out today at 3:00 and hopefully, he will come out at 3:00 because I have to leave at 5:00. I used to be with AHS and I stopped about eight years ago because of what’s happening right now with the first person. I had more plumbing problems then and the person was really rude about it and said that I wasn't a paid client. He said that he could come out but he couldn't give me his first appointment. He had to come out only if he could fit me in somewhere. I didn’t care how he was getting paid and I felt that feeling again when I called the refrigerator people. They didn’t care that the person had to come out.
I had been an AHS person for 15 years or so and about six months after I canceled my AHS eight years ago, my water heater went out and I had to pay a $1,000 for that. And even after that, I still wasn’t willing to go to AHS because of the experience that I had had with the plumber was so demeaning and I’m still a paid client. Other than that, I like the fact that there’s an online option now which they did not have before. I messed up and I forgot my password, but they were helpful with that.

We had one toilet that was doing one thing and our other toilet was doing another. Previously, we had another warranty company that never really fixed the problem. They didn't get back to us when they said they were going to. Conversely, the first guy sent by American Home Shield was great. However, when we got to the second toilet, he was confused by what he saw. The original owners of our place had set up the toilet wiring as if they wanted to put a bidet in their someday. There were little things sticking out from the pipe and had knobs. Also, it was leaking. He said their company couldn't fix the toilet and that he would have to shut down water in the house.
Thereafter, a second company called us and sent a different plumber. I was looking at the toilet and I asked him if he could replace the knob. He said sure and had it fixed in 15 minutes. Overall, I like American Home Shield and I'm impressed that people pick up the phone there. Also, I liked that both plumbers from AHS were also more local. I recommend this company.

The first time I called American Home Shield for a contractor to come out to do the refrigerator, the company that came out claimed they replaced the refrigerator parts but the refrigerator was doing the exact thing. I realized that they never checked to see that the reason why the refrigerator wasn’t getting cold was because of the thermostat and there was ice build-up in the back. I called back American Home Shield, they told me that I had to pay $100 again although it was about the same claim. I was screaming at them so much and told them that I'm through with them and that I'm going to another company. But they said that they'll send somebody out.
The second guy came out and he was from Masterpro. I told him that based on what I’ve seen, the problem was the thermostat. When he pulled the thing out, it was all ice back there. He said that the guy should’ve checked it. I’ve raised so much hell about that company and I even called them. I was really frustrated with them and let them know that they got paid for doing absolutely nothing. This particular incident put a ruffle in AHS' service. They kept asking me to pay $100. I won't keep paying $100 for the same appliances but they said I had to. Nevertheless, I find that having the warranty on the house very valuable with the last company that came out. They were so good at what they did and if I have to have somebody else come out to my house, I would request them.

I called AHS to submit a claim for my air conditioner. At the time, temperature was at triple digits in Texas. I had to be able to sleep and it was getting hot really fast. At first, their contractor said they might not be able to come in a timely manner. However, I pushed them and told them that I have newborn twins. So, they made sure to be out here and they came out within 24 hours. Their technician was great even though it was the poor guy's 13th day in a row. He was super busy but he was still polite.

We filed our electrical claim over the phone and the representatives were fine. American Home Shield found Washington Electric and the tech called me to schedule an appointment. However, they weren't willing to work with us on the time so I had to call American Home Shield back. I tried to get them to get us somebody else and they said they couldn’t, so I tried to get this guy to come out. However, we waited and waited and he never called back.
Then after the fourth phone call that we made to American Home Shield, I told them that the contractor still hasn’t come back and we had no one out here to look at the issue. They finally got another contractor, which was Ampak. They came out and they were really good. The tech was very thorough as he looked at everything. He did what needed to be done and he explained everything to us. He was great and the service was amazing. It's just that we had made multiple phone calls to American Home Shield and it took over a month to get somebody out here to work on our claim.

I’m in the process of selling my home so I cranked the air conditioning down and I had to call Greenway, the contractor, back out. I never kept the house that cool and I realized that there was only so much that a certain air conditioner can do in the house when you run them on and on. I asked for a senior tech and they were able to explain everything. They shot the ducts with infrared and showed me one was blowing 58 degrees and one was blowing just exactly what they said. There was about 7 degrees difference for both of the ceilings, and explained that if I don’t air condition the upstairs, it’s a lot harder on the downstairs unit.
They wrote it up as an error because the thermostat was reading air, so I thought it was warm than it actually was. They came out previously and they fixed it the first time around. They did a great job doing that. I have never had a warranty before and it’s really a good thing. I’ve either tried to fix things myself or paid for it out of pocket. American Home Shield was very good and the warranty people were excellent. With the experiences I’ve had with AHS, I would recommend them.

American Home Shield is great and I've had no issues with them. However, there are issues in getting the scheduling done with some of the companies that they use. The first time, something went wrong with the heat and the contractor was able to come out within a couple of days. This time, the company doesn’t work on weekends so it took them 12 days before they were able to come out for my AC that went out completely. The only thing that they had available was one day that I obviously couldn’t take off of work so I had to wait ‘til the following week for them to be able to come out.
The AC worked good for about 20 something days and then it went out again. I called them because I couldn’t understand what the issue was and they said it was some kind of safety feature, but I couldn’t understand if the company knew that was an issue already and why they didn’t deal with that when they put the AC in. Despite that, repairs were done the same day. Overall, I've gotten my money’s worth out of American Home Shield so I'm gonna continue having a contract with them.

I had to call Express 11 times to have them come out and it was frustrating. I was not very happy with their service and still not extremely happy with my air conditioning. They could not find the parts that the AC needed, so they put a brand new coolant on it which is high efficiency. However, my old unit outside is not high efficiency so they don’t seem to work well together. I set my upstairs AC on 72 and it takes my house until 1 o’clock in the morning to get down close to that. The contractor kept trying to sell me an outside unit but I told them, “Isn’t that why I have insurance with American Home Shield?” Then the guy told me that AHS was not gonna cover the AC because it’s repairable and that if I wanted it to cool better, I needed to replace the unit outside.
I contacted AHS and asked the person I spoke with to file a formal complaint against that contractor. I called several times and asked for them not to send a certain technician named Bob since he was the one who seemed to want to just sell a unit, but then, they sent him anyway. Nevertheless, the guy from AHS was very pleasant. When I told him I wanted to file a formal complaint, he told me that they would send out someone for a second opinion, and I said that that would be great.
Comfort was out here one day, but my house was 80 degrees that night so again, I called and complained. A guy from Piedmont Heating and Air came out the next day and he was here for five minutes. He walked out and told me that he could tell that the AC was three pounds low on Freon. Comfort charged $120 per pound of Freon, but Piedmont said they charge $60 a pound to install it. It was like Comfort was price gouging me. My house is still not cooling very well, but I am so frustrated that I’m through with it right now. The issue is not AHS, but it’s the companies they send out to repair the AC which represent them.

The washing machine makes a ridiculous racket in the spin cycle. I submitted my claim for it online to American Home Shield and Dill Appliance Repair is the contracting company. They never answer their phone and I had to leave a message or shoot them an e-mail or text. However, their guys who had been out here have been very nice and pleasant. They came in, worked on the machine and left. They replaced the tub bearings but that didn’t seem to make any difference and then it started leaking water. They came back out to look at it and said that the leaking water was a soap dispenser drain but it seems to be draining gallons of water each time we try to use it. So now, they’re simply waiting on a part for the soap dispenser piece. Yesterday, I've also put something on their website that the noise on the spin cycle was continuing to the point we can’t use the washing machine now.
I’m not real happy with the washer repair that seems to be taking way too long and I don’t think they’re fixing it, but that’s in motion. It’s been going on for weeks with the delays and how long the parts would take them to get to arrive and so forth. However, we’ve had other positive experiences with American Home Shield. Only this particular washing machine incident that was not done well. We had the garage door opener repaired and air conditioning work done and that’s all been good. I was talking to somebody yesterday and generally, having American Home Shield is a good deal.

Having a home warranty is a good idea, especially as the home ages. But customers have to do their homework and compare different companies and prices. We had other warranty companies and they were not as good as American Home Shield. But my mother-in-law has the same company and they keep jacking up her premium every year. Her home is not even as old as ours. Aside from that, one also has to understand what the warranty covers and what it doesn't. Having a warranty is not always as cracked up as one would think it is.
My biggest frustration with the warranty company is being able to get ahold of an actual person to speak with. The wait times are ridiculous. I would be waiting 30 minutes to an hour on the phone and when I had to re-call somebody, there was no option for that. There has also been a couple of times when I've gotten people in their call center who were really snotty. They don't have the understanding that here you are with an inch-deep of water in your laundry room and you're stressed. I get that they have hard days too but they're supposed to be in customer service and I'm the customer.
I had two simultaneous claims. One was for the washing machine and the other one was for the air conditioning. But it's hard to find reputable people and unfortunately, the people who get the warranty work are new in the area or may not have the best reputation because it's really easy money. They can get in and out, and get those calls coming. They don't have to market or worry about their reputation so much. The couple of folks that I noticed have better quality are Sears, who sent a guy out for the washing machine, and Hospitality Heating and Air, who worked on the AC claim.
Something was going on with the washing machine and the water wouldn't drain. The first guy who came out said that the switch was broken. It was the switch that turns off the revolving when you lift the top of the washing machine to open it and put clothes in. He reattached the wires and screwed it down. But he didn't actually replace the switch. We didn't know that though. The washing machine wasn't working when he came and it was working when he left. So when the washing machine began to have difficulties again, it was too far out from the first guy to be able to call somebody back out.
I had to drop another $100 to have somebody come out. But the second guy who came out was fantastic. He was from Sears and he nailed the issue immediately. He ordered the part, saw that there was another issue with the washing machine and ordered the part for that as well. The switch was mailed to our house and it came in three days. Then the technician came by the next day and installed it.
As for the air conditioning claim, we had repeated attempts to get the upstairs unit to cool. It would be running but the temperature upstairs would be 76 to 78 degrees even though the thermostat was set at 72. Some of the HVAC people the warranty people sent out didn't really seem to have it together though. They would come in and say, "Let's do this and let's do this," but we never really got a handle on what was going on, and what they did would fix the problem temporarily. With one company, the man was really mean too. He didn't even wanna be here and he was pissed. So I called back the company and told them never to send that company back out here.
Hospitality Heat and Air is the company that I really liked. They checked and added Freon, which we had to pay for. When that didn't fix it, I had to call back and I asked AHS to send Hospitality back out. They did a leak check and sure enough, there was a bit of a leak. When they went upstairs and checked in the attic, they found an issue with the coil. It needed to be replaced so that had to go back to the warranty company. That was something that the warranty didn't pay the full amount for and that I was gonna have to pay quite a bit of money for. So that had to be approved and the part had to be ordered. But that finally came together and Hospitality installed the coil. It was almost a four-hour job and I spent 870 on my end to get that done. But the air conditioner upstairs was finally working great.

Then no other contractor was assigned for over 24 hours. I called AHS and was told that I should get my own contractor to do the work and to follow the steps for reimbursement including have the contractor call for authorization once they diagnosed the problem. On a subsequent call I was told that I would have to pay the contractor and that AHS was not responsible for reimbursement.
How could I know the steps if I wasn't authorized. Spoke to a very rude Yolanda a "supervisor" who told me that no one gave me authorization. The service technicians were from a different company, RMS, and were very courteous and efficient. They answered all my questions regarding this service appointment and determined my AC unit needed refrigerant. My DISSATISFACTION is with the warranty with AHS itself. My AC unit needed refrigerant because it is an older model. I am sure this is one of the most common reasons for AC failure with older units and this is exactly why my realtor recommended a home warranty to me when I purchased my condo in June of 2015.
In order to pay a very minimal amount for this type of service, AHS has changed their warranty and now pay only the first $10 of every pound of refrigerant needed. This is a VERY MINIMAL amount for this type of service considering the price of this stuff. I needed 2 pounds and ended up paying $230 for the refrigerant alone while AHS covered $20. In addition to the refrigerant fee, I also pay a $75 service fee for every service request. So in all I ended up paying $305 of charges for a $325 service call. THANKS AHS FOR PITCHING IN THE 20 BUCKS. Not very good coverage considering I pay $41.33 a month for this warranty.

This is a TERRIBLE home warranty company!!! They hire the worst service contractors probably so they can cut their costs by paying the service contractor cheap rates. The service contractors they hire do not respond to phone calls, do not respond to voicemails. Their technicians are unprofessional and unhelpful. Any simple service (ex. fixing malfunctioning faucets) took over A WEEK! Several phone calls to AHS and they are unsympathetic and unwilling to help. They basically told me that my service request was assigned to this non-responsive contractor so I'm stuck with them until they reach out to me. The only thing I can do is to wait.
After this terrible experience, I tried to cancel my contract with AHS because when I originally signed up with them I chose the month to month payment option. Since I'm only 6 months into this with them and had such bad experience with them, I do not want to stuck with them for another 6 months. They were not helpful at all and told me I have to pay them so much in Admin fees to cancel my contract. So now I am being hijacked by this incapable, unhelpful, unprofessional warranty company who hires only the worst service contractor in the fields so they can pay cheap fees for another 6 months.
To say that I'm disappointed and upset is an understatement. So please research this company thoroughly, DO NOT get fooled by the positive reviews on their own website and on the ** website. Those are such scams!!! This company cares nothing but their own bottom line and is very unwilling to look out for its customers as long as they collected their premiums and service fees. I’ve been a loyal customer with this company years and pay them faithfully monthly. The past few months my air conditioner was not cooling the house. AHS sent four techs out the first two said it only needed refrigerant... I refuse to pay another $475 until they said why it was leaking. They sent a tech out who never did a leak test but visually looked at the unit by ripping back the sealant around the pipes. He saw a bend and reported the unit was cost nearly $1000 to repair. I told AHS I wanted a second opinion and they sent another tech out. In the meantime I contacted a government HVAC tech and another private HVAC tech both agreed the unit only needed refrigerant and it was normal wear for the unit to leak. *I paid for the refrigerant and the unit works fine.*
The two techs AHS sent out lied. I called one of the techs on the phone after his report and recorded him admitting he never did a leak test and that if the pipe was repaired it still would not guarantee this was causing the leak. Never mind the fact that he wanted $700 plus $475 for refrigerant before he would even do the leak test.
AHS called me and read the last tech report and said I owe them $75 service fee. I’m on the phone with them now, telling them the issues, of course they're telling me what the tech said and completely ignoring my point. Two of their techs said it needed refrigerant and two came up with the pipe issue. So I had two completely different techs (not from AHS). The line set is not cover by AHS only the unit which was never tested for a leak. Now they’re telling me they will only do future repairs on the unit if I fix the line set.
AHS is a money sucking machine and I’m canceling them. They also refuse to fix the shower head in my bathroom because I didn’t have the original knob (which shattered and broke, it was 23 years old). Who saves a knob. They will find any reason to not repair your items and these last two issues prove to me AHS Cares nothing about their customers. Only that you pay them monthly and pay the service fees, the techs will Find any reason to void your contract so AHS doesn’t have to be response. I proved this by having two HVAC techs look at my air conditioner and both agreed the AHS tech was fishing for a reason to deny the repair and make up bogus out of pocket cost. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

That company called me to schedule an appointment and all that I hear in the background is kids (funny how one of the reviews stated that there was always a kid to translate). I called AHS back and requested another company which their customer service person was more than happy to do but she gives me another company that their reviews were not much better than the first company.
I called back to request a more reputable company but was told that until that company called to schedule my appointment they couldn't cancel that company and assign another one. I made it clear to the customer service rep that my 70 year old mother lives with me and that I cannot afford for my a/c to not be working when our average temp is 100+ daily (that doesn't seem to matter). I am seriously looking to change my home warranty company. For the amount of $$ you pay AHS monthly they should be able to provide quality companies that are reliable and not crooks.

My sink would not turn and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield online. Their online site was okay but they didn’t have enough choices. I’d like to have something that says “Other” under each one of plumbing, heating and air. If it had a slot that said “Other” on a space to type there what the actual issue is, that would be great. They only have, for example, a faucet or a toilet to pick. The contractor that AHS sent though was awesome and he did a great job. He was from Peacher Plumbing and he showed up when he said he was, so I wasn’t sitting around waiting on him. Then when he got here, he got on the deal and ended up replacing the faucet for us and gave us a comparable equipment and installed it. He was in and out in 45 minutes and it was good.
However, I don’t like the renewal process with AHS. I just had to renew and that cost me around 1,000 bucks for a house that, in the first year, everything that has gone wrong got fixed. The renewal cost is gonna be almost twice as much money as I spent the first year but almost everything was fixed. Other than that, I’m cool with everything and I’d recommend AHS. But if you got a brand-new house, chances are nothing’s gonna go down and you’ll just be wasting 1,000 bucks. Wait five years when you start getting towards the end of the service life of some of your equipment and then go ahead and do it. Other than that, AHS is very good.

When the AC unit wasn't cooling, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and have had a great experience. At first, I thought I wouldn’t be able to place a call for service because I got off work late that day, and by the time I got around to it, I called them at 10:00 PM and got an answer. The gentleman submitted the ticket to have the AC serviced. He took a moment to see what the weather was gonna be here in Austin, Texas and since it was gonna be 101 degrees, he expedited the ticket. I got a notification that I should be contacted by someone to fix the AC and it was around noon when someone picked up my ticket. Then at about 2:00 PM, a technician arrived and he was great and very polite.
Our AC has a capacitor that blew up because it was working too hard for too long. The unit currently has a radiator that houses the whole thing and the fan sits on top. All of that had dirt and gut that built up over the last couple of years. The tech told me that I should spray that out twice a year with a hose. He took the time to remove the fan off the top and spray the inside and the outside. And then, he fixed the capacitor. We powered everything back on and then he hung out for a few minutes until we started feeling the cold air running through the unit again. Everything has been working fine since then. Being able to call even though there are different time zones, getting somebody to answer my call, and putting a ticket out for repair was significant to me because so often, companies are restricted to business hours. I may or may not get someone after hours so what AHS did was nice.

My tub wasn’t draining very well and I filed a claim online for it with American Home Shield. The contractor that they sent walked me through the issue and told me what was wrong. Since then, the tub has been perfect. Having a warranty on my property has been very valuable. It has been saving me some money.

My air conditioner wasn’t cooling. I called American Home Shield but it was really hard to get through. They don’t have enough representatives to answer the phones and usually, there’s about a two-hour wait on hold and they don’t offer a callback. The contractors that they sent knew exactly what to do though. They took care of me and they were excellent. They had the part with them so they came prepared. The AHS customer service is fine but they need to work on getting more help on the phone center or offer a call back to hold my place in line. Other than that, they got everything taken care of in a timely manner and the service is good. When it’s time to renew, I’ll renew with them.

After an hour of my AC not getting cold, I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online and the website is user-friendly. DND Heating & Air came out after a couple of days. They came on time and cleaned up after themselves.

I've had American Home Shield at least 15 years and I love them. They're a great company. Submitting claims is a piece of cake. You call and submit a claim, and then no matter if it's overnight, the business is closed, it's during the day or it's something in an hour, the business contacts you and they're usually out that same day. The contractors are all good. They're very thorough, they know what they're doing, they're very neat, they're not dirty and they're well-mannered. My AC was blowing hot air recently, and a tech came out and fixed it. It still blows warm air and then it kicks in cold, but he said that it's 'cause the unit is old. Overall there are so many companies that are a little cheaper than American Home Shield, but AHS is so thorough and good that you don't wanna take a chance just to save 20 or 30 bucks.

I called American Home Shield when my sink wasn’t draining and the toilet was acting weird. They sent a guy out and he did a good job. He did more than he needed to, so I was happy. But the company that was sent out for my air conditioner sucked. They were the only one in my area, but it took them over three years to finally figure out what my problem was because my air conditioner kept shutting off. There was this one guy who bypassed some stuff on that circuit board. He took some wires and kinda hot-wired them into another part of the circuit board because the left part of the circuit board was dead. I figured they would replace it but they didn’t. It should’ve been fixed properly but I was told that as long as it’s running, then there’s no problem.

Our air conditioning unit wasn’t kicking on, but it ended up being an issue with the unit, not the electrical. We also had a blown fuse and they replaced that. Initially, it was an air conditioning problem and the air guy came out and replaced the compressor. That was when we found out we also had an electrical problem, so the air conditioning company contacted American Home Shield, and American Home Shield got a hold of the electrician and had them sent right out the next day. The customer service from American Home Shield was great. They called people for us and got somebody to come out right away.
The contractor that came out was also great, very professional, and very personable, and he knew what he was doing. He did a good job and I was satisfied. The unit has been going really good since the repair and everything is functioning like it should be. American Home Shield is definitely worth it, but they should try to get more vendors in the area. Over the years, we’ve used American Home Shield for a lot for things and sometimes, we have a hard time getting people out in a timely manner because they’re coming from out of town.

My experiences with American Home Shield have always been good. I usually submit a claim through the internet and everything’s great. Every time I’ve called AHS, the techs have come, fixed everything and showed me how to fix it myself. They are professional, friendly, and they walk me through things to make sure that I know what’s happening.

Central Virginia, the ac company American Home Shield sent, was pleasant to deal with but it took them way longer than it should’ve taken when it was 90 plus degrees outside. It took 3 weeks and 1 day and Central Virginia didn’t even offer any kind of portable unit to at least put in one room in my house. It was ridiculous. I had to wait for a compressor where if AHS had gone to another larger company here it would take a week to order. Even after the part came in, it took another week for them to make arrangements to come to my house.
Nevertheless, the rep from AHS was very pleasant. I told her I was gonna die and it was hot but she was nice to deal with. AHS has always been there. I’ve had to use them before and they’ve always been great. They have gotten everything I needed done so I’m happy with them. I’ve already recommended them to several friends.

Everything is wonderful with AHS. I’m a real estate broker and I’ve never had a home warranty before. And I decided I’m gonna try them because I buy them for all my clients. Every time I’ve spoken to AHS reps, they’ve been very sweet and they would say they've taken care of the problem. The contractors are very professional and nice too. I like this company and I recommend them.

My roommate moved out and she didn't leave the keys. I then called American Home Shield to have my doors rekeyed. They talked to me and they sent me a text message of who to call and who was gonna call me back. The guy from R&R Rekey & Locksmithing then called right back and he came out quickly. He was really pleasant and professional, and he told me exactly what I needed and what the claim was. He got the keys changed and he was good. However, about three days later, I got the email to pay, which was weird. But they finally paid it and got it taken care of. So, that was good. And the price was reasonable. American Home Shield was very quick and very responsive. I was very happy with them.

Our air conditioner was not cooling the house and we came to find out it was low on Freon so I went online and filed a claim with AHS. Then they texted me back within 48 hours. All the guy could tell me is, “Okay. This is what American Home Shield covers. This is what they pay." The contractor showed up on time and did his job. He knew everything. He was really experienced but all he did was fill the AC with Freon. It was freezing up. It took care of that part of it but I said that the house seems not to be cooling properly so I didn’t think the fan was blowing on the high cycle like it needed to be doing for AC. It was blowing on the low cycle which we do for heat stuff. He told us, “That’s all I’m here to do. Since this is gonna take care of it.”
My neighbors have a heat and conditioning company so I just go with them. I spent another $80 for American Home Shield to come out for the service call and then they said, “Well, I don’t know what your problem is. I’m not there." I thought that they would check my coils, make sure they're not dirty and double check if everything isn’t frozen. American Home Shield did save me a couple or dollars but for them the AC is still kind of working, so they're not gonna do anything for me. I only had the one claim with AHS. I got a couple of other things in my house. My oven was getting to where it wasn’t working but I was thinking what were they going to tell me -- that they're still waiting so they can’t cover it? It looks like a good policy but there’s things, like any policy, unless you really read the fine print or actually have something happen, then that’s when you really find out whether that’s a good policy or not.
Hello, Brian. We apologize if you did not have a good service experience. You have a 60 day recall period and if the issue is not resolved, we can have the company come back out to check the unit. They come to address the issue, and unfortunately, a routine maintenance check is not something that the policy covers. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns.

The drying line was clogged up so I had flooding in my furnace room. The contractor that AHS sent out was wonderful. He called prior to coming as promised by the company and he did a great job. He had a good personality and he said he knew right away what the problem was and he was correct. He was a young man but he had good people skills because I’m older and sometimes young people don’t like dealing with old people. But he was really down to earth and we had a nice, friendly conversation. He corrected the problem and I haven’t had any more problems.

My dryer was overheating and would stop work right after I dried one load. We needed to stop and take a break before doing another. I also had an issue with my range console not cooking and I submitted the claims for both with American Home Shield. I attempted to start online, but it was problematic, so I did it over the phone. I always find it easier to call and make sure I’m getting what I want. Also, in putting in a request, the person that came out to do my dryer and range came to do something on my refrigerator a few months ago, and he had good availability to meet mine, so it’s faster and more efficient to call when wanting to use the same company.
The technician that came out was great and really kind. It didn’t take long to identify what the problem was, to order the parts, and to fix it, so we were really happy with it. Every issue we’ve had was worked out. We’ve been happy with the people we’ve used over the years to fix everything and the response has been good, too.

My swamp cooler, Mastercool, started making a clanging sound and then when I looked at it, the whole thing was rocking back and forth. I climbed up there and the squirrel cage was so rusted that fins were blowing off and it made it uneven and so it was rocking. My wife called the claim in with American Home Shield. The guy who came and looked at it agreed that it's about to fall apart. He was very professional. And since the service, I get more airflow now, which is amazing. That turned out really well. American Home Shield is worth the money.

I had AHS for one year four years ago and then I called AHS back again. Recently, I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS. I had a very good interaction with their reps. They told me I had to wait at least 24 hours before somebody called me. The technician showed up and he fixed the A/C right away. He told me the problem was electrical short. So he fixed some wires over there, put them back and that was it. The performance of the A/C since the repair has been excellent.

American Home Shield's website is relatively straightforward in terms of what it offers but there have been times when I was looking for information and it has been impossible to find. For example, I wanted to upgrade the status of my account because we were still early on and I couldn’t do that which was really annoying. Also, I didn’t have a place to leave specific information, which means that they don’t have a great way of taking who is gonna do my claim. I would like the opportunity to submit specifics on what I’ve got going on. There may be a contractor that’s better suited to certain types of problems and AHS doesn’t know that because they don’t know exactly the problem is.
Plus, there’s no way for me to follow-up on each specific claim and the performance of the contractor. The first couple of times that I’ve submitted claims, I’ve been getting emails to rate the contractors and I haven’t been getting those emails now. This is infuriating because I have very negative remarks to leave about one of the contractors as they gave bad information to us. The last time the HVAC repair guy was here, he said a whole bunch of BS about how some of the system works. So the thing we thought was broken wasn't actually broken. We called a different HVAC guy on our own dime and he told us that the previous guy totally lied to us and didn't fix the problem.
