My air conditioner was working but it was not cooling. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the rep responded immediately. She wrote a report, then she gave me the number of the contractor that I had to call. I called the contractor and set an appointment, and they came out in two days as scheduled. The AC guy wanted to know what the problem was, so I explained it to him. Then he looked at it and told me all that was needed, what AHS would cover, and what my payment would be, and I agreed. But the repair took more time since some parts had to be ordered. When the parts arrived, the contractor called me and we set an appointment again. The tech came in and fixed my AC, and everything has been good since the repair.

I’m happy and satisfied with AHS. My needs are taken care of and my interactions with the reps have all been very good. But we have to negotiate when it comes to pricing because the out-of-pocket is pretty high. I'm still better off, though, when I compare the market price with what I am paying. My experience with AHS has been good and I’m due to renew my contract with them next month.

I've had American Home Shield since I moved in to my house about nine years ago and I'm very happy with them. I do my claims over the phone and everybody that I've dealt with has been very professional and nice. Lately, I've had their techs out frequently and most recently I got a fantastic guy named Brian for my washer and dryer. He was prompt, very pleasant and I felt very comfortable having him. He explained exactly what was wrong and what was being done. He was really on top of everything. Some parts needed to be ordered for my washer and so he's coming back again this coming Monday. Since I've had AHS for these repairs, everything has been done very well and I've been happy with the results of all the visits. They're doing a fantastic job so I always recommend them to anybody I know that’s getting a house.

My air conditioning unit broke down, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The process was easy going. I used the app and I only had to click about three or four buttons and I was done. The contractors they sent out were great. They’ve been out to our place before, and the best part of it was that there was no service charge for them to come out. Also, they were pretty quick to respond and they showed up on time. After the repair, the air conditioning has been working well.

My only complaint would be with American Home Shield in terms of their service agreement and some of the add-ons that they charge for what should be included. They started charging for freon. I get an insurance policy because when something breaks down, it needs to get fixed and then I pay extra money for this program. And now when they charge you for something like the freon, if that is what is stopping my system from working, then that should be included in the cost of what I’ve paid and I don’t want to be nickel-and-dimed beyond the premium. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has been good to work with.

One weekend, I noticed that the temperature in the house was getting hotter and hotter, but the AC was still running. However, it was pumping out hot air. From what I understand, if there is this issue, it’s better you get to turn off the AC so it doesn’t cause any more damage to the unit, and that was when I contacted American Home Shield. I went to their website, which was perfect and very easy to read and follow, and I filed my claim. The contractor came out after a couple of days and he was very professional and nice. He explained the situation and what he believed was going on. He took extra time to make sure that my AC unit and the HVAC system were working because he said it looked like everything was fine. He also made sure that the unit was cleared of debris and everything was good to go.

He felt like there was something a little extra off, so he stayed around and tested a few more things. He told me that there were a couple of items that feed the Freon into the HVAC system and to keep an eye on that. It might over-freeze and will cause the system to shut down. Another thing he told me was to contact them if I notice the temperature changing or getting hot again and if I locked in and I was freezing over so they could come out and replace something, but it’s very hard to contact them because they’re so busy. I am keeping an eye on it though, but I’d like to contact them at some point, have them come back out, and replace that part. However, the unit has been working well since the repair. My warranty with American Home Shield is very valuable. I actually need to contact them again because there’s something wrong with our fridge’s shelf at the top.

I've had AHS for about five years and I look at it as insurance. If something goes haywire, I have someone to help me out and hopefully take care of it. There have been a few that I'm not happy about as far as claims denied. We still have a broken appliance as it was reported that the washer would cost more to repair and we understand that it’s under review as to how they are gonna proceed.

The sensor on my water heater went out and it needed to be replaced, so I filed for a plumbing issue online to American Home Shield. It was pretty easy and then the company that they went through, Advanced Home Services, contacted me and set up an appointment. They were there the very next day. The contractor was very courteous. There was a big time window and he called me up and said, “I’ll be there in 20-30 minutes.” He showed up, did the job and he was good to go. Everything’s going well now. To get everything done was very user-friendly and it was very easy. So, I’m happy with it. I would definitely recommend AHS.

We put the house on the market and someone had an inspection on the AC and said that there’s a certain temperature it’s supposed to meet whenever you turn it on. It wasn’t meeting that, so something was broken on it. The air wasn’t working and it wasn’t getting cold. I went online and submitted a claim for repair with American Home Shield. It was very easy to navigate through their website and it was a lot easier to do it online than trying to get somebody on the phone there. It didn’t take long to get a contractor out, but there was an issue between the contractor and the warranty.

The contractor didn’t put something in the way it was supposed to be. Nonetheless, the work that they did was excellent. We could definitely tell the difference that it was broken for a while and we didn’t know it because it was a lot cooler in there since the repair. Having the warranty on our property gives us the peace of mind. I haven’t had any bad experience with them at all, so it was very beneficial for me and I’ve recommended American Home Shield to people already.

My air conditioner was making a weird noise which I could hear from the inside of my house. Also when I have it on auto, it wasn't cutting it on and off in a timely manner. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and their website was awesome, easy, simple and user-friendly. I didn't spend five minutes throughout the thing. It took three days, which included the weekend, to get a contractor out. It was hot during that time so I was glad it happened so quickly. The interaction with the tech was awesome too. He was very professional, down to earth and friendly. He came in and spoke to me and my mom. He asked to see where the unit was located inside the house and told me exactly what he felt was wrong after he inspected everything. After the repair, I haven't had any issues at all.

I've had a home warranty for many years and I couldn't imagine myself without it. I've told my friends about American Home Shield. With them, I don't have to look and find somebody to do the work for me. And I don’t have to pay this enormous bill since I pay my monthly bill with AHS and it comes straight out of my account. I let them do all the worrying.

American Home Shield has been spot on. Recently I got the contractor Ace and they're fabulous. They're responsive, polite and they get there when they say they're going to.

One of our air conditioning units was not working, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. It was very easy to navigate through their website. I put the claim in on a Friday and the contractor came out on Monday afternoon. When he came in, he was trying to assess what the problem was and he told me what he was gonna do. He wanted to see where the unit was. He fixed it and he left, but after two days, the same issue came back, so I had to call AHS again. On the second time the contractor came in, the unit was fixed. My house is a couple of years older, so things break, and when things break, the home warranty is the easiest option to get a fix, so it is very valuable to have the warranty on our property. I would even tell my neighbors to get one.

The contractor AHS sent has come four times for my AC and they misdiagnosed thrice. The fourth time they ordered and brought in the wrong part. My house right now is at 96 degrees and it's been that way for 30 days. I also can't leave because every week they come back. Now they haven't even scheduled when they're gonna come back.

I have two Home Shield contracts for two different houses and they're usually professional, but they're pretty mediocre. I have to call the plumbing people that worked in my house in Atlanta a couple of months ago. I didn't know this because I don't live there but they left a hole in the wall where they fixed the piping. AHS needs to pick better vendors. I don't think I'm gonna renew. There has been times that it's been great but they are inconsistent.

We had an issue with our air conditioner. The thermostat had turned off and the unit was not working, even if we put the breakers and switches. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and then I called them the next day to confirm everything because I wanted to make sure who they were sending out. I wanted to check on the reviews because it wasn't one that I had heard of in our area. I was kind of hoping that we could request somebody that we were a little more familiar with but they have to use providers that they are contracted with. There weren’t a whole lot of options for us to be able to make any changes to that, but they told me about the reviews for that particular provider being positive in terms of their customers that have used them before.

We had to reschedule the tech coming out a couple of times because it was storming. He wouldn’t be able to go outside to see if there was a problem with the unit because he couldn’t do that in the rain with anything electrical going on. But he was able to come out and get everything done. It turned out the pan of the air conditioner was filing up with liquid. The float switch shut it down. They ran some nitrogen through the line and emptied the pan so that it wouldn’t keep filling up.

We’ve had AHS for about five years now and that was the first time I’ve had to use the service. There are certain things that maybe won’t be covered, like if there are limitations to the coverage. So depending on what the issue is, it could be that we would still have to pay out of pocket a little bit. And we can only use certain providers. Also, their online system was a little bit difficult to use and you couldn't find some of the information that you needed on their website. But I would rather have it than not, in case something like this happens. I would recommend AHS.

A month ago, the fan motor on the AC went out. I turned it in on a Sunday and AMP, out of Oklahoma City, called. They said they'd be here on Wednesday so we had to spend two more nights in a hotel. My AC is a Goodman and the contractor said they don't carry motors for that brand. The fan motor is specific to the brand, so you couldn’t go to Locke Supply and put a new fan motor on. The fella figured out the trick to get the motor to spin and had gotten it started. He gave me a couple of handy tips to keep the air conditioner fan moving, so we don’t have to spend another night in the hotel. He told me that if you put a box fan on top of it, that could help keep the fan blades moving. He also showed me how to spin it with a screwdriver, so I was able to get it to spin with a screwdriver once. Then he came back on Friday and put the fan motor in there and it’s been working since then.

When I bought the house, AHS came with it. But it expired on the 11th and when I tried to renew it, it was very expensive. Relative to an air conditioner, it's not nearly as expensive. I find it unacceptable that AHS has one price on the internet and another price for the people on the telephone. Then, the salespeople were not terribly willing to honor the website price. In my opinion, that’s bait-and-switch and so they don’t get my business. But the service and the group they sent out were good.

I called one day and then the next morning the technician called and he said he was in the area. So that was a really quick service. He looked at it and he said it was not even worth working on. Within about a week and a half, I had a brand new refrigerator. He was also very thorough and knowledgeable. We also had issues with our air conditioning system and we paid $100 deductible for the guy to come out and look at it. However, what had to be fixed, wasn’t covered. But I got the work done in the basement where the issue was plus the new outside unit and a new thermostat for a pretty good price.

I asked if they would call before they come out and she said they would call an hour before, so I didn't make any plans for that following Monday. What I didn't like was I got a call at about 9:15 on Monday morning and I asked when the contractor was gonna be here and the lady said in 15 minutes. Other than that, the guy that came out was really polite and did a really good job.

The pipe of the kitchen sink is the same as my washer, so I didn't ruin my dishwasher from Thursday night until after he came on Monday. When he was trying to snake my kitchen sink, he made water come up in my garage and I let him know. He was very attentive for that and he also made sure that that water quit coming up. But I had a second claim which was for the water heater and that caused a bit of a hiccup. I have a tankless water heater and they didn't pick up on the tankless part. So on two different times, they sent me repair folks who did not work on tankless heaters at all. I called and told American Home Shield that they had to find somebody who actually works on a tankless heater. But that aside, both of the contractors who worked on the AC and the heater were competent. Both of the problems were fairly minor and the contractors solved them fairly quickly. We put in a service request for our refrigerator. After several days, I received a voicemail telling me that because of the brand, they were unable to find a contractor that can fix it. I was told that we can find an outside contractor to repair it and get it reimbursed. There were no details given regarding who to call for any authorization process. My husband later called Customer Service and was told that we had authorization. So he found a contractor and had the work done. We submit the invoice for reimbursement and received a denial letter claiming we didn't obtain prior approval.

I made 3 different calls back to back, taking about 90 minutes to try to understand what happened. They have it documented somewhere that they called me 3 times attempting to tell me how to get this authorization but because I didn't call them back, authorization was denied. HOWEVER, I never received these phone calls as evidenced by my phone records. Now we are left paying for something that we were told would be reimbursed, and it wasn't cheap. And every time I ask someone what can be done to remedy this situation, I am told "nothing". TERRIBLE experience with AHS.

Three week run-around during 92 degree heat in Florida. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE ME! I have been waiting for three weeks to have my AHS covered air conditioning repaired! Three technicians have come to my home. None of them have accomplished anything! Your company does not seem to have the parts they need, and they have not ordered the parts in a timely fashion! The parts are rusted together! They cannot be removed without taking the housing out of the unit too. Why haven't they removed the defective parts and gone to get the replacement parts???

When you SAY the parts are in, the technicians then have to waste a trip to my home to "ATTEMPT" to remove the defective parts, which they can't remove because they are rusted together! After you say you have the parts, then I have to wait another week to get on your ** schedule. You are not helping me at all and I AM STUCK WITH YOUR COMPANY!!! When I try to call, I am put on hold for a LONG TIME!!! I have had to use three of my vacation days (and I only get one a month) and still NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE! Won't someone DO something???

I had to call other contractors and fix it on my own. I wasted my money and my time with AHS. I will never recommend them to anyone. I have paid for upgraded plan thinking I am safe, but keep getting rejected or getting wrong diagnose and I still have to pay for deductibles, this is fraud. Too bad I can't give zero stars.

I have been with American Home Shield for 15 years with two different homes. The one time I use them is when my AC compressor unit (outside) failed and caught on fire and the duct work was falling apart. I call them and they assigned an HVAC company to evaluate the issue. This company never called, I tried calling them, left voice mail after voice mail and they never returned my call. I call AHS back and told them. Their reply was they will try to call them on a private contact number they had and to give it a couple more days.

After couple days I called them back and they said they will call a different company. This company showed up and it appears he had no idea what he was doing. He said the compressor was fine and that it needed to be recharge with Freon. Even though it had burn marks all over it. I told him it caught on fire, his reply was it will be fine. He inspected the duct work and said it was in great shape. After discussing what he found, I ask him to go with me into the attic and I will show him the issue. Once there I showed him the busted ductwork and he said that he was looking at the other ductwork in the back of the house. A different system altogether! He said he can fix that now. I went back in house and he spent a couple hours in the attic, came down and said it was fixed and left. I went up in the attic to see what he did. He used electrical tape to wrap the duct work!!!

He submit an evaluation report to AHS 3 days after he was here. I'm guess to see about replacing the AC compressor. After a week I never heard from AHS. I called them and it was still under review and to allow a couple more days. The following week I call AHS and it was still under review. I ask them what is the problem, the AC compressor unit was burned up and need to be replaced. I explained that I live in Texas and it has been 95-100 deg F here. They said the technician didn't report that the AC unit was out. He only said the duct work needed to be replaced. AHS said they would not be able to warranty the AC compressor until they get a tech out there. They assigned the same first HVAC company that I told them never called me or them so they assigned it to HVAC company that did show.

I said I didn't trust him because he used electric tape to fix the duct work that was falling apart. AHS said they only had two companies that cover our area so I could choose. My options were a HVAC company that never called or a HVAC company that had no ideal what he was doing. At this point we have been without AC for 5 weeks. I called a local HVAC company and they came out within 30 minutes, inspected the system and reported back to me what needed to be replaced or repaired. I basically told them to remove the complete system including duct work and replace with new. Talk with AHS and they would not pay any on the replacement since it wasn't a company they had contracted. I told them that I would use either of the companies they had and that they can cancel my account and to not call me in 2019 to renew.

I live in a small town in the Texas Panhandle and after discussing with my local HVAC guys about why they don't work with AHS, they said that AHS charges them a percentage of the repairs they send them. If ask if I would recommend American Home Shield, I would say no! As for the other home warranty companies, I couldn't answer this question. I never been with anyone but AHS.

On 7/11/18, I reported a few plumbing issues to AHS. On 7/16/18, a Stilwell Plumbing representative showed up and, only after I showed him all the issues that I had reported, he told me that he had only one issue on his work order (a stoppage issue), and that he could not fix it because he did not have a snake on his truck. After several calls to get the issues straighten out and a plumber back to resolve all the issues, another Stilwell Plumbing representative showed up on 7/31/18. Out of four issues reported, two were fixed, and one denied on that visit. As to the issue left, the plumber said he needed to go to the store, get the price for the part, get AHS approval, and then return to fix the problem. He never returned to repair the problem. I called AHS many times; they never knew what was going on always giving different explanations but no solutions.

Finally on 8/14/18, I asked to speak to a manager, I was on hold for 35 minutes before the call was dropped. On 8/15/18, I was on hold for 42 minutes but I did speak to Chastity an alleged supervisor of the escalation department (having worked in customer service for so many years, It is possible she is solely an agent from the escalation department). After being on hold for about an additional 20 minutes, she returned to the line explaining that there had been a miscommunication; therefore they never really knew what issue I was calling about. She also said that now that they were clear on what the issue was, they were going to send Murray's Plumbing and Heating LLC to resolve the issue. Chastity was speaking very fast; which made hard to understand anything she was saying.

When I asked her to repeat the information she was rude, and impatient. So I asked to speak to her supervisor, but Chastity said she would put a request in and that her supervisor would get in touch within the next 24-48 business hrs. Murray's Plumbing and Heating LLC called shortly after but the woman asked that explain the issue. Naturally, I was irritated by that. As I attempted to explain the reason for my irritation, she began to speak over me, refused to accept the work order and hang up. I called AHS right away, asked to talk to Chastity’s supervisor; the CSR Mykel said she had no way to transfer me to the supervisor.

On 08/17/18, Tony from C Mayes Plumbing & Heating LLC came by and inspected the issue. Then he explained that the part which needs replacing had been discontinued, and that it would take him about two days to find the part on eBay, if he can find it at all. According to him, AHS will only authorize an upgrade if an original part cannot be located. We will see how long it will take to complete the work order opened on July 11, 2018.

I live in Florida. It's 92 degrees. My children are sleeping downstairs with doors open. Just got off the phone with someone who didn't give me an answer. My sister recommended American Home Shield to me and during my first claim, they sent out Action Plumbing. Action Plumbing then installed the water heater, but I was disappointed with the fact that I had to pay an extra $345 for them to put a connection to it. A friend of mine, who is a plumber, also told me that that was an unfair charge at that amount. I told American Home Shield that when I paid $100 deductible, I didn't know that I had to pay more money out of my pocket. They told me that they had nothing to do with whatever extra money Action Plumbing charged.

So, the money Action Plumbing was charging has nothing to do with what their contract had in regards to our contract. It was like Action Plumbing was saying one thing and American Home Shield was saying another. So, it’s a little bit frustrating. Also, I'm yet to receive our contract. I’ve already called a hundred times and asked American Home Shield to send that to me but they still haven't sent it.

Filing a claim with American Home Shield is terribly easy. Once I got my account set-up, I literally don’t have to talk to anybody about anything. It’s all on the computer. I just submit the claim and then I can pay. I’ve got a $75 deductible per instant deal and I can pay that immediately but I can choose to pay that after the service. I had a good experience the first go-round when my pool pump went out but I’m now in the middle of another claim that seems to be dragging on.

The chlorinator on the pool has a strong leak and there are two components to that. There’s an electrical component where the screen is messed up and the display is not correct. Then the filter element of it is leaking. I reported that and American Home Shield contacted Aztec. I stayed in touch with the gentleman at Aztec and I spoke with him last week and he told me that the supplier in Lakeland, Florida didn’t have the parts that I need. So American Home Shield told the contractor to see if he could find the parts at another supplier.

The contractor found the parts and sent AHS all the information, then AHS attempted to purchase them but they couldn’t or decided not to. AHS then contacted Aztec and told them to buy the parts. At that point, I was talking to John from Aztec and he told me that he was not going to buy the parts. He said that American Home Shield lags behind in paying just for labor stuff. He told me that he was not gonna fork out about $300 for parts and let that money stay in limbo. I understood that.

So I called AHS as soon as I got home Thursday of last week and I was on the phone for about an hour and a half. AHS ended up sending me to the right department. The guy put me on hold and he called the contractor to see if they could work something out. He came back on the phone and told me that he had a plan worked out with the contractor. So I hung up with him and called Aztec immediately. I told John that AHS told me that they got everything worked out.

He said that AHS had decided to send him back to their original supplier and that AHS would put a brand new system on my pool. That was where it was Thursday and I’ve been texting with Aztec back and forth. I texted them again this afternoon and things still haven’t worked out. John said he was communicating with American Home Shield and he told me that AHS couldn’t seem to get their act together about what we need. This thing has lingered on now for several weeks, but Aztec came out and replaced the pump on my previous claim and they were very helpful. John kept me in the loop about what was going on. If this happened when our pump was down, I’d be furious because I’d be afraid I was gonna lose the pool. But it’s still providing what it needs in this diminished capacity because it’s just leaking.

I've been having problems with my air conditioning unit at my house in Clearwater, Florida and at the house in Tallahassee all summer so I've called American Home Shield about six times since April. It has been inconvenient for me and my baby to have to go without AC. I tried to submit a claim online but for some reason, my email and my password never worked and AHS's website gave me a message that says there was something wrong with their system. So, I always end up calling them to file a claim. Still, AHS got somebody out here as soon as they can.

We dealt with Air Doctor for our Clearwater property and the contractors have always been nice and very professional. They call either my husband or myself to let me know that they are on their way. I appreciate it and it’s always nice not to be in the middle of bath time for my infant when somebody shows up. The first time we called somebody out, all the contractors did was put more coolant in the system. A few weeks later, we had the same issue where the coil was freezing over so then we called them back up and said that we were still having the problem. The contractor said it was a leak which was funny because they were here a few weeks ago saying it wasn’t one.

Thereafter, the technician explained to me that they shoot a kind of pasty thing in the line that was supposed to cover the hole and that way the leak was fixed. It worked for a month and then we had the same issue again. We had to call Air Doctor back to come out and see what the deal was. The last time, the contractor found where the leak in the line was and he cut out that piece of tubing and he soldered the rest back together. The air conditioner has been working fine since then. So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been great and having their warranty has been easy and convenient for us. Air Doctor has been great as well but I just wish that the problem had been solved first instead of trying a little patch here and there.

My AC wasn’t cooling so I called in to submit a claim to American Home Shield. Their reps were very good but the contractors were very dishonest people. They came outside and my wife called me to tell me that we have a problem with Freon. They said there was a leak which they had to take care of and fill up the Freon. The Freon in it was covered under my plan and that wasn’t explained to my wife and she did not authorize anything. They started filling up five pounds of Freon and they charged me $145 per pound.

Also, I’m not so sure if the leak was fixed. My friend who’s at the AC company said if they do an MRI or a CT scan, they're supposed to inject some kind of liquid to find out where the leak is. Then, once they find the leak, they fill up the Freon. They were there for 35 minutes where they found the leak, fixed the leak, and filled up the Freon which is impossible. I called AHS and shared my frustration and told them I was very upset. But they said there was nothing they could do and that they weren’t gonna charge for the deductibles. They did not do a good job solving my issue. When it’s time to renew, I will not stay with AHS.

Sears ordered the part, but it took GE eight weeks to get the part to me. However, Jarvis, the rep who came out, was professional. The temp control, which was bad to start with, had gone out. I just washed the automatic oven cleaner and now the oven works better than it ever has. Having the warranty is worth the time and it saves you extra money. When we bought our home, we had a year warranty and the warranty company was horrible. We ran into somebody our age who had AHS and talked about their experience so I looked into it. The AHS woman who stayed on the phone with me for over an hour was pleasant, information-loaded, really made the experience so much easier. There are things they don’t cover but the plan that we got was a broad-spectrum and we liked it so well. We bought it for our second home, which is a much newer home. So, what we are spending per month for two houses is less than what we spent for one house with the other company.

When my dishwasher wasn’t cleaning properly and my refrigerator was leaking and frosting up, I filed a claim to AHS over the phone which was extremely easy. However, they get out-of-country service people who aren’t as familiar with product and there was a language issue. She was having difficulty understanding what I was trying to explain about the dishwasher. So, I just waited till Monday and talked to AHS and we were able to pick the service person we wanted. The contractor that came out, Noe, was excellent. In fact, he had been there for our range too. He literally resurrected it and then he did our dishwasher and the refrigerator. He’s one of the most knowledgeable appliance repair person we’ve ever had. He would explain what he was doing and he wasn’t annoyed by the fact I was standing in the room and asking him questions, and he'd readily engage in the conversation.

We’ve had a lot of contractors over the years. A lot of people are only trained on a range or dishwasher or refrigerator. But he immediately diagnosed the problem and was able to give me information on all the appliances way and above what we would’ve expected. And they are older appliances. We’ve had other repair people come out and they don’t know old technology. He’s been in the business for a while and he’s hands-on smarts when it comes to looking at an appliance, and he knows how to diagnose. He was excellent. He was able to fix my appliances in one visit but because they’re older, parts aren’t as readily available. So, they had to come back to reinstall. So far, everything is working good since the repair. American Home Shield is excellent

I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. We had a thermostat that malfunctioned and gave us an error code. I talked to the Honeywell people of the thermostat and they said I should get in touch with air conditioning folks because I have some communication issues with the thermostat and the AC unit. I called Home Shield and they had a contractor come and take a look at that. They said that a part of the AC unit had to be changed out. Then they went out through the AC unit upstairs and then they went through a big spiel that it all has to be in code compliance since the unit was not installed in code compliance.

What I did not like was that they started to put pressure on me to install a complete unit. They said that they had a good sale, that I really should get a whole big new unit and that they can do that quite rapidly. I told them I didn't want a new unit and that I just wanted them to repair whatever it was. So I got a little concerned to the point where I started not to trust them a little bit because they were forcing the issue. Eventually, my wife got on the phone with them and they started talking. But they didn’t agree eye to eye and they both hung up.

Then we went to Home Shield and told them what was going on. But they said there was nothing they could do about it. I told them to give me another contractor but they said that if they did, they would charge me for a second opinion. Then if the second opinion would come up to the same conclusion, Home Shield would give us the first contractor. I didn’t like that at all. It was like Home Shield didn’t care. They did not wanna support us at all. My wife and I evaluated it. Then we talked to Home Shield and they started to discuss that we did need to have our unit up to code if it was not. Then they started explaining that this contractor has been around for 30 years and that they were reliable. At the end of the day, we went ahead with the first contractor.

They were also charging me $1,600 and they wanted the whole funding upfront. I asked them why and they said that was what they did. That was the other thing I didn’t like. They had not even come and installed it. I asked them what if the unit didn't work when they left. They said they would guarantee to work on it but that they would need to have a check or a credit card. I told them I would pay when the guy would come but they said the guy wouldn't be equipped to get any money. So something was definitely wrong. I explained all that to Home Shield and they convinced us that everything was okay and that was what the contractor normally did. So then I said, “Okay. Let's get this first started because I needed the air conditioning, okay?”

When they came, they did not talk about any other new units though. They did not talk about any funding at all either. They just came in. They were professional and they did a good job. Then they left without even asking for any money. I'm still skeptical about this code compliance and this additional $1,000 I had to pay to put one thermostat, one level sensor and a couple of valves. To me, it was a big rip-off. It was the worst experience.

I was initially signing up online with American Home Shield, but as I was doing that I called them because I had a couple questions. The rep told me that if I gave them a reference and signed up with him, I would be getting a gift card but I wouldn't if I signed up online. But I never received the gift card, even though I did that with him. Also, when a pipe burst and I went online to submit a claim with AHS, I had a problem in navigating through their website which was weird because the things that I needed weren’t there, so I had to put whatever was offered. Nevertheless, the contractor, Allstate Plumbing Colorado, contacted me in a couple of days. The plumber got here and I explained to him what I needed, but he didn’t have the part that was needed so he had to come back and I had to contact him to come back out when I was ready for him to do that. But he was very professional and he did a good job, and everything is operating well now.

The AC wasn't blowing any cold air and I called AHS to file a claim. Their reps are always great and polite. If I have any questions with the people that they sent out or have any issues, I could call them back and they'd take care of it for me. AHS tries to use the same people as long as they don't have issues with the people when they come out. The people that came out have been here before and they knew what they were doing. Every time AHS sends somebody out, the one they send knows what they are doing. It's not like a handyman. If you have an AC issue, an AC person comes out. If you have an issue with your stove, an appliance person comes out. AHS is great.

There were controls that don’t work on my stove and the stove was not heating up properly. I made an online claim with American Home Shield. The contractor called and set up a time to come out and look at it. The person who came in was told about the two issues and he ordered parts for one which was the heating up problem, but he didn’t order or do anything about the controls issue.

My wife and my mother-in-law were there, and he told them that he would deal with the one issue and we'd have to file another claim on the other one. It would be another $75 if I've had to put out for something I've already reported, and I don’t feel like I should be charged for that. We're waiting on parts. They're supposed to call back and set up a time to replace the heating coils whenever they get them. Overall, AHS is better than not having anything and coming out of pocket over everything. This is my second time having a home warranty with them on our house, and they've been okay.

I had American Home Shield for three years. One time, I had a simple ice-maker problem and a dishwasher problem and they took care of those. That part was great as long as they didn't have to spend any money on me. Then, I needed a new hot water heater so they sent a guy out here and we had looked at it ourselves. I don’t know if the guy didn't want to do the job, but the way it sounded when I talked to American Home Shield, that it wasn't gonna be covered because I had messed with it. But the thing didn't work and I was only trying to take out the bottom heater. It was frozen into where I couldn't unscrew to get it out. But anyway, I ended up paying $200 for a new hot water heater myself.

I called American Home Shield regarding my air-condition. I told them I really needed to get it expedited ‘cause there was a lady living in the house that has breathing problems. But it was still a good four days before they got somebody here because it was August when everybody's got problems. The guy told me how the outside unit was falling apart. I said that he had to tell American Home Shield. He said he called them but the only thing they do is fix. I asked if he could get it working and he said yes. So he replaced the motor and put in one that was a universal type.

It worked for about two days, and then it was gone again. So I called them back and told them that a guy who was here 2 years ago said that the air conditioner's 20 years old and that the heating that came with it when they built the house needed replacing. It was another four days before they could find somebody. I told they guy what had been done before by another company. He got to look in and said, "Man, this thing is falling apart."

Anyway, I'd already made up my mind that I needed a new air-condition heating system for this whole house. So I told this big air-condition company that I was buying one no matter what. They said that they have people at the office whose work was with home warranties and that they'd see what they could get me. But I didn't hear anything from American Home Shield. They didn't get me anything so I'm paying $9,800 for a new air-conditioner inside/out myself for five years with no interest. And I'm financing it through other people.

I cancelled with AHS on the day it was supposed to be renewed for another month. I checked my bank account every morning to see what was cleared and what hasn't and I saw that American Home Shield taken $5 out of my account. I called them and said that I had cancelled it the day before. They said that I still owed $75 for cancel. I said, "Well, take that payment and make that my last payment in, whatever I owe you."

I called them back a couple of days later and got a different number. They were supposed to leave final checkers to find out what actually happened. After talking to this lady for about 20 minutes with her checking this and that, she asked me for my phone number in case we get disconnected. So I gave her the phone number and sure enough, after 15-20 minutes and after I told her what was going, we got cut off and she never called back. Then all the other callbacks were for the same problem. Overall, as far as fixing the part and getting something working again, American Home Shiled might be all right when they can get somebody out here, but as far replacing anything or do anything costly, forget it. They won’t do nothing that really counts.

Everything worked out fine then a vendor called me. They showed up as they had planned and fixed the main issue. It took about 45 minutes. Then the guy noticed some noise. In some situations, the technician would have brought up some excuses. But he listened to me and talked about it. Then he had to go get another part and the travel time for him took about an hour. Then he fixed the noise in another 20 minutes. He did a great job and I’m very happy with it. I’m also very satisfied with American Home Shield. They did a good job as well.

I'm very impressed with American Home Shield. I've used them for at least 10 years in various properties and everything works out fine. I liked the insurance process and the way the work is done. I called them because of a leak. The company that came out here was great and solved my problem very quickly. The guy was bright as can be and very friendly. He was probably here for eight minutes. He also commented, “It looks like this pipe that comes down from the ceiling is not to code. You're probably gonna need that replaced when you sell the house,” and I've done that and that was fine, and I thought it was great. American Home Shield did a great job and I'm nothing but a satisfied customer.

I'm gonna sell the property and I'm thinking about transferring my AHS coverage to the new owner because it’s a good thing to do, give them a year of it. I would tell them that it's a very inexpensive insurance policy that can save them lots of money. I would also tell them that 10 years ago, I had a home on Bainbridge Island in Washington that I sold and in between the time that the contract was accepted and the closing, my water heater blew up. And because I had AHS, it cost me $145 to replace my water heater instead of the $1,500 that I would have had to do, and then they also paid for the clean-up. Also, about three years ago, we had to replace a dryer and they offered one that I thought was fine, but my wife said she'd like something with more features. So, they gave us a check for the amount that they’d promised us and we spent another $150, but that was fine. AHS is great overall and I've always had good experience with them.

I was really unhappy with like the last experience. Neither the plumbers nor the AC person can fix it. Nevertheless the customer service rep from AHS, that I talked to over the phone was good. I liked the internet ratings for AHS so I signed up with them. I've been with them for somewhere around two years now and recently, they sent Aqua Bright out and they were great. They were out here a couple of times and they were super-efficient. They started with one thing to see if that worked and if it didn't, they'd fix it again.

One time, there was a situation with an air conditioner and the AC went out Friday night. I called AHS that night and the guy came out the next day, which was great. He said that the problem was the compressor and that he couldn't order it till Monday then AHS had to okay it. On Tuesday, they were gonna ship it from their warehouse. It only comes from the warehouse and they didn’t ship it overnight. So it was 86 degrees in the house for over a week and that was kind of painful. It was what it was, but when your AC goes down when it’s really hot out, there needs to be a faster way of getting things done.

I was also frustrated when I had to wait for a week and the AC went out again because of something else. I had to wait several more days and in the meantime, I had people in the house who were getting cooked. One of them was severely disabled and it was a very uncomfortable situation for everybody. Other than that, American Home Shield's reps who answer the phone when you call in and the people who come out have been good.

My tenants recently had an issue with the AC unit on our rental property. Our property is covered under AHS warranty, so my property management team contacted AHS on our behalf to start a service claim. My property management team was told by AHS that it would be at least two weeks before they could get a technician out to the property. A two week timeline was completely unacceptable for July in Georgia, so my property management team asked AHS for authorization to utilize a local vendor, which AHS approved. My property management team established contact with the local vendor and made all the arrangements for service, AHS did absolutely nothing. The local vendor completed the service and fixed the issue on the unit.

A few weeks later, AHS refused to cover the service, claiming that it was not covered under warranty. They also charged me a $100 service fee after they were unable to provide service. I was billed directly by the vendor, to include a service call fee which I paid. I contacted AHS and so far have been told that I was charged $100 because a claim was initiated even though AHS did not provide any actual service. When I asked the rep if they would be willing to pay me $100 to do nothing they promptly told me "absolutely not". They then informed me that they were not authorized to provide a refund and when I asked to speak to a manager, they conveniently disconnected the call.

Our hot water heater went out and we immediately contacted AHS. They sent a service technician out who told us we needed a new water heater. He then told us it would most likely take them 10 days to replace as they are backed up right now. We have called AHS customer service and they have been less than helpful and I would characterize their attitude as rehearsed and apathetic. They continually apologize for the delay and see this as an inconvenience. We are looking for resolutions - not apologies.

I have read the contract and it states that the service will be initiated within 48 hours. In bringing that up to the service rep, they stated since the technician came out and diagnosed the problem, it was initiated. I let the service rep know the whole premise of our relationship was for them to replace or repair. We are paying them to not only diagnose but more importantly fix the issue. The contract officially reads "The services will be initiated under normal circumstances within 48 hours after your service request is made to AHS." It says nothing about diagnosing the issue. The operative word is service. The service we are requesting is repair or replace. I am completely dissatisfied with the time to repair, hidden replacement fees and lack of professionalism by customer service.

After repeatedly s aying they couldn’t help me, and after going public with the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, AHS contacted me and offered to reinstate, with fees needing to be paid to them retroactive to May. I told them I appreciated that, and that I wanted coverage from them again. but I’d prefer to start anew from that day, and that I’d pay for the washer repair out of my own pocket with a local LG-certified technician of my choice who’d already been scheduled. That’s what I and they did. I saved almost $200 in retroactive fees and got my machine up and running for only $80 (I got real lucky on that!) I do believe that pressure from public forums such as this one led AHS to finally come to their senses and do the right thing. I do, however, have to give AHS credit for finally doing the right thing, albeit, the hard way.

    Original Review: Aug. 16, 2018

After 14 continuous years of coverage and 14 years of NOT ultra-high usage, American Home Shield retaliated against me for invoking a clause in their contract, by refusing to renew my coverage, and then, not notifying me of said non-renewal. In January, 2017, my dishwasher needed service, so I went online, ordered service and paid the $75 fee in-advance online. The contractor who was assigned was from a town 40 miles away from me and he wasn't able to come to my house until the following week.

Just a few days after I placed that order (but prior to the contractor's visit), my oven started acting funny, so, I went online again, ordered service for the oven and paid AHS another $75 fee. AHS just happened to assign the same contractor to me for my oven repair as they did for the dishwasher repair. While the contractor was working on my dishwasher, I turned the oven on to see if it would work.

After the contractor was finished fixing the dishwasher, I asked the technician if he also worked on ovens. He said he did. I then showed him a print-out of the second work order, showing him that his company was also set-up for the oven repair too. I asked him if he wished to save a second 40-mile one-way trip and take a look at the oven while he was already in my kitchen. He said yes. At that point I discovered that the oven was working fine, so I told him to forget about it. He did.

I then contacted AHS to request a refund of the $75 I paid for the oven repair service call which never really happened. They refused. I tried to explain in further detail. They still refused. I then escalated from making "a request" to making "a demand" for a refund. They still refused. I then wrote a letter to them and in the letter I invoked a clause in their contract, which says that disputes have to go to arbitration, and, that if I wanted to go to Small Claims Court instead, I would need their consent to do that. I formally asked for them to either allow me to sue them in Small Claims Court for the $75 or to proceed to arbitration. I felt very strongly that they were not entitled to any money for the oven repair. After receiving my letter, invoking my rights under their contract, they eventually refunded me the unearned $75.

In August, 2018, my washing machine needed repair. I then came to discover that my AHS contract was non-renewed in May 2018. They allege that they sent me a letter in August, 2017, notifying me of their decision not to renew in May, 2018. I have no record of ever receiving any such letter. The premium payments were debited from my checking account every month for the past 14 years. I did not realize in my bank statements for May, June & July, that such debits were missing. I had no knowledge of anything.

Digging deeper, I was informed that their decision last year not to renew me this year was made by the AHS legal department, as response/retaliation for my "threatening" letter to them, which merely invoked my rights to either arbitration or court or my $75 back per the clause in their own contract. American Home Shield discarded a 14-year loyal customer who stood firm against them for his right not to be ripped-off by them. I'm not sure if I should be unhappy that my home is now without coverage, or if I should be happy that I am no longer in a business relationship with a disreputable company who would do something this like American Home Shield. Online truth-telling is my only avenue for my retaliation, so here it is.

I would give zero stars if I could as I am 4 days out from the first request for service and still have had no one out to look at my issue. I completed a request for service on Monday, for a leak in my toilet (per the maintenance people in my condo building based upon a complaint of a leak at the business below), it is now Thursday and I still have the problem. AHS did refer this to one contractor, but they had the incorrect problem (blockage of toilet, not leak - I never noted a blockage). That first contractor did call back, but upon discovering the problem was a leak not a blockage they stated they needed to get confirmation from AHS for this different problem, but neither they nor AHS ever followed up. I completed another service request online for the same problem (the first report was made on the phone via an automated system).

The service was given to another contractor, upon calling them to set an appointment came to discover they do not service the area I live in. I called AHS back and relayed this information, was told another contractor would be assigned, but is it unclear if this actually happened until I followed up on the next day. There was a referral to a third plumbing service contractor, upon calling this service contractor (where I had to leave a message) - I received a 'courtesy call' from the plumber stating he refuses any contracts from AHS due to the frustration of getting approvals for repairs. I call back AHS to state that the service contractor is refusing the work due to AHS.

The procedure is for AHS to confirm with the contractor that they are refusing the service, in this case, when they are calling the plumber they are getting an answering service requiring the plumber to call them back to verify the refusal - he will likely not be returning the call (he has no reason to and he refused when I asked him to call AHS). According to the procedure (so I was told) AHS has is to wait 30 minutes and then an email is sent to Contractor Relations - and it is up to Contract Relations to get a hold of the contractor and verify the refusal and why - again, the plumber is likely to not return their call either, meanwhile I am still waiting for the repair of a leaky toilet 96 hours after making the first call. AHS needs a procedure for service contractors who do not respond and a procedure for follow up with customers.

I choose to drop the clothes dryer from the list and substitute a refrigerator that had just went off its one year manufacturer's warranty. I paid extra to have an eleventh item added to the list which was a dishwasher. It is now August of 2018. My ice maker stopped putting out ice. I looked at the problem and was able to determine it was possibly a frozen line. I cleared that up by myself. I then looked at the new contract and the fridge wasn't on there. Clothes washer was removed but added as 11th item not the fridge. That's when I called about the contract. ALL ITEMS ARE WORKING FINE.

It was when I called about the contract that I encountered persons I could not understand or get to understand what I was saying (language barrier), nor would a person transfer me to a supervisor. I was put on hold a couple of times but unable to be allowed to speak to a person who may be able to understand my concern. After looking at the bottom of page 10 of the contract (LARGE print) it states "This company pays persons not employed by the company for the sale, advertising, inspection or processing of a residential service contract under Texas Occupation Code 1303.304". I will also say that "I did not" read through the 10 pages of this contract TO DISCOVER THE ERROR THAT SOME EMPLOYEE OF SOME UNNAMED COMPANY MADE ON MY ACCOUNT.

This was a verbal exchange I had with A PERSON over the phone giving my credit card number. I DID NOT sign the 10 pages of mostly small print contract, nor did I conceive a person would not understand that I was making changes just to increase paying them. I will now let others know of this whenever an opportunity like this comes up. I do live in a townhouse community. There is just no one in this company to talk to! PS: I did read that the contract automatically renews if I don't let them know at the end of the contract term on a certain date next year.

He said, "I need more room in the attic."

Here we are 10 days later and nothing has been done. I called World Class AC and asked them what they needed to be done in the attic and they stated, "to make more room." Not sure what this meant, but they ultimately said today, "We can't fix it." So here we are 115 days without AC and AHS is nowhere to be seen. After 100 days AHS had a rep by the name of Mariah ** call me and state how surprised she was, how sorry AHS was and that she would "make this a top priority to fix asap." We haven't heard back from her and this after leaving her 2 messages. Why does AHS not care?? Are they not making enough money off of us?? Why are their vendors so poor?? Why don't they follow up with their vendors to ensure work is being completed? We don't know what to do anymore and we NEED HELP ASAP.

We had a problem with our dryer. I called American Home Shield and talking to the rep was good. However, we went without a dryer for about 10 days or so because the company that was coming out couldn’t fit us in. Also, the techs came out twice because the first time they came out, they needed parts. So, they had to wait for the parts to come in.

We also had another issue. Since we were supposed to pay a fee, we gave the tech cash but he did not tell us that we were not supposed to be paying him, and we should’ve been paying American Home Shield directly. So far, I have gotten two or three emails for different times saying that the bill hasn't been paid. And each time, American Home Shield said they are gonna go ahead and get it off my record so it will not show up. I told them if it happens a third time, I expect a month free. But other than that, after the repair, we haven't had any more issues with the dryer.

Sometimes, our washing machine wouldn’t shut off. It also kept filling and overflowing and it made a mess. I called American Home Shield and the techs came out. They couldn’t duplicate the problem but they kept playing around with it. It worked when they came and it shut off. The guy said it could be either the shut-off valve or there was another valve on there. He was gonna replace the valve and let me know if there were any problems. I had to wait a week to get the part, but that was not a problem. My wife just had to make sure she watched the washing machine that it was working. It never failed after they came out but we couldn’t trust it. With the two replacement parts, we haven't had any problems since.

I had one company before AHS and they were horrible. I dropped them because I had a problem with the toilet and they couldn’t get anybody to come out. I had to call and get my own plumber and I had to pay for it. The other company reimbursed me, but they only reimbursed me a part of it. On the other hand, American Home Shield is a good company and there were no problems with them.

I had an issue with my basement AC unit. I went online to submit the claim with American Home Shield and their site worked really well. They sent their contractor thereafter and they did a good job. I figured they'd be out here a long time, but they found the leak in about 10 minutes. There was a coil in the compressor that burned out, and it was leaking around the compressor. So, they had to reschedule to get a new compressor.

I figured the contractor might drop the ball getting that new compressor because they had to go through the insurance company, who then had to get back to them. Still, it all came around and they were able to complete the installation of the compressor. American Home Shield is a great company. If you got a new house or an old house, getting AHS is a good deal and it's worth investing in it, especially when you have an old house because that’s when things are gonna go wrong.

I talked to friends of ours and other people who bought home warranty policies through AHS and their competitors. The consensus was that American Home Shield was by far the best, so I went with them. I have them for two months now and so far, I've only had to call in a claim once. The water well went out on me and it turned out that it was a start capacitor. But I talked to the previous owner and they said that it was the original well, so I was thinking the water pump was going out.

AHS sent 77 Water Well and my experience with them was awesome. When their tech came out, he was very honest about it and said that as much as he'd like to replace the water well for me, he couldn't justify it. He said that it was still going strong and that I just had a bad capacitor. He was also very thorough and spent some time talking to me and telling me about it. I know that American Home Shield doesn’t cover replacement of the actual tank of the water well. It was apparent that that tank needed to be replaced and he told me as much. I called him back about a week later and asked him if he’d be willing to replace it and he did. And it was at a good price. I called around and checked with other people and he had the best price by far. So they were great.

I have three contracts with AHS on three different places and I use them. It saves a lot of money as well as time in finding a good technician. American Home Shield's service has also been good and the people I’ve talked to in their organization department have been very helpful. Once, the blower and another part of our pool broke and the way American Home Shield responded was beautiful. The contractor was here the next day and he was great. Then, when we ordered the parts, we only waited for five days until American Home Shield got them. The guy then came and installed them. The service was great.

We used to have American Home Shield in Louisiana when we bought a house about 15 years ago and when we bought these houses here, we signed back up with them because we have always had a good experience with them. I submitted the claims with American Home Shield online, but I had talked to someone on the phone a couple of times because one time, they had canceled a claim. They then got it all straightened out. The customer service reps did well and they resolved all the issues. The contractors were very polite and respectful. They did their job and were very quick about it. It wasn’t something that was dragged out for days and days. We had to wait for the parts to come, which was not anything at all on them. Everything was fine and we were well-pleased.

When my dishwasher had stopped washing, the tech changed out the motor that makes the things spin around so it would wash again. Also, one of the heating elements of the stove or a switch to a heating element on the top went out and the tech changed that out. They did a really good job and they fixed the problem. I was finally able to use my dishwasher again, and I can't live without a dishwasher. But, now, my dishwasher is acting up again. However, I'm expecting that it's going to end up having to be replaced. It is leaving a pasty white film on my dishes after washing. My stove started showing an error code of F11, too, a few days ago.

Nevertheless, I've recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people -- my son-in-law, my son, my daughter, to other people, and even to my brother in Arkansas. I had given him AHS' information and told him he should sign up with them to be able to protect himself because you never know what's going to happen with the appliances when you move into a place. You buy it and you don’t know what it is you're buying when it comes to appliances, and they can be costly to replace right off the bat. AHS is very easy to contact and to get set up for a technician to come out and check on whatever the issue is. The techs were always good about explaining everything and even giving tips on how to protect your appliances yourself as well and how to get the best out of them.

My air conditioning started to slowly go out. It would go and work and then all of a sudden it would stop and then a pipe downstairs would freeze leading inside. I’d have to turn it off and then turn it back on after it defrosted and then eventually, it stopped working. I first called American Home Shield because I didn’t know what to do, but I knew that my air-conditioning unit was covered. It’s my first home, so I didn’t understand how the home warranty worked, what I’m gonna have to pay, but the guy I talked to took the time and explained everything to me that the only thing out-of-pocket for me for this situation was the $100 service call. He also said that it was easier simply by logging into my account online and then process it. I submitted the claim online and it was super simple doing it, but I cancelled the claim because my air conditioning started working, but a day later, it was broken again.

The contractor came and he was friendly. The first time he came out, he fixed one thing and said he'd see if it works, but I called him back on the 4th of July because it went out again. It’s one of those things where companies fix the cheapest thing first, thinking that one thing might fix it, and if it doesn't, they will do the next step. The guy came out again, fixed the motor and since then, I've had no problems.

So she found somebody else for me and the contractor came out Friday. He was very professional and since the repair, everything has been pretty good. In fact, two service guys came out because one guy didn’t know that the other guy was coming. One guy came around 4:00 and then the other guy came around 5:30.

American Home Shield charges us $44.99 every month and when we spoke to the lady on the phone, we told her that American Home Shield has our credit cards. But the first time we paid for the water heater, we gave the guy cash. When the rep said that there was a $100 fee, we told her to charge it on our account, but she never answered us or said anything. A week later, we got an email saying that if we didn’t pay and gave the credit card number, American Home Shield would no longer be with us and they didn’t wanna do business with us. It was kinda weird and we had to call back because we also got a letter from American Home Shield. When my husband called them, he explained to the gentleman rep and the rep apologized. American Home Shield is still the best deal one could get. The service is really good and they come out pretty fast.

I prefer doing claims with American Home Shield online. I get a text afterwards and the response is generally quick. But I submitted a claim on a Tuesday once and the contractor couldn't be there until the next Monday. I certainly thought they could get to me Thursday or Friday but they did not. I needed it done right away though. I could not do it next Monday so I told them to forget it and canceled the service. I had to call somebody on my own and pay whatever they charged. My only suggestion for American Home Shield would be if one contractor couldn't do the job, they may have somebody else that I could call that can come out a little quicker.

But generally, my experience with American Home Shield has been very positive. When the AC wasn't cooling upstairs, General AC and Heating came out the next day. We were having 100-plus days and the technician was quick. He diagnosed the problem and although we had a few issues getting through the closet, he cleaned out around the condenser and that was it. He told me that I needed to turn the thermostat up a little bit so that the downstairs air conditioner would not be overworking itself. So instead of putting it at 60 because the temperature is not cool, I should put it at 75 and maybe the temperature would get to 75. And that has been helpful. It's still little warm but it's not like it was when I set the thermostat up a little bit.

It was hot and the AC wasn’t cooling. I submitted the claim on the phone to AHS and it was very easy the second time. But the first time was horrible. They gave me the contractor who would be coming out to deal with my problem and this was on a Thursday. I kept calling the people but they were not in for the weekend. They originally said they would do the job but they never showed up. Then I kept calling back to AHS and they told me that they would try to find somebody. But it took almost two weeks before we could get some kind of satisfaction. I got discouraged and I had to keep calling until they got a local to come and do it.

I'm diabetic and I could not get relieved from the heat psychologically. My granddaughter and her two little kids live here with me. Her baby is two years old, but he was a preemie, so we had to keep ice on him. I went out and bought three of those little cooling situations that you keep ice in and keep them around him. Then we went and bought three more fans. My granddaughter is at management at the bank, so she was in air conditioning and she kept her baby in daycare anyway. The frightening part was me being here in the home all day. I got in my car and turned my air on. Then I would go into stores to be in there to survive. It was terrible.

So, we were battling and it was very hectic for the family. I started thinking if there was another warranty company because I felt like I was at a disadvantage and there was nothing I could do about it. Other than that, the tech who came out was very nice. He explained what was going on, told me what he was doing, and made it very plain. He determined that I needed a new capacitor. He had to order it and that took a little bit more time, but he installed it, so it worked out eventually.

I reached another point where the AC didn’t seem to be cooling again, so I called American Home Shield up because I wanted them to call the guy up again. He came right on and he said he added some more refrigerant. It's been working fine ever since. I also had an issue with my freezer where my ice maker went out. AHS recommended a guy and he took care of it. He had to order the part and as soon as the part came in, he came, put the freezer back together, and everything worked fine. Still, I would tell others who'd ask me about AHS to check around.

But after that was fixed and repaired, it was still flickering. I had the tenants moved out and we cut the power off. When the power company came out and turned the power on for us to do cleaning and maintenance, they could not turn the power on because there was a hot socket at the meter box. If you can't get me in for a week, I need you to go out prepared to do this work" and they go out there and they're not prepared to do any work. Then, they said they don't even know if it's covered. They have to call and get approval from American Home Shield. And at the end of the day, they' said, "Well, we got permission to do the work. If we have to do something with the gas line, it'll be 150 on your part." I replied, "That's fine. I just want it fixed."

The lineman got up with his giant gloves on and cut the lines to the house. Then we had to have it inspected if they put any box in. We're talking about a multiple step process. When they called me back after, they said it has been approved and they can't get me in until next Monday or Tuesday. However, I should not have to go to the back of the line because they weren't prepared to come and do the work that they needed to do. I was irate. They said, "We've had 17 people call in since last call and they're after you." I said, "But my problem is not fixed. My turn is not over."

I called and lit a fire under RJ Wiggins and then I did the same with American Home Shield. RJ Wiggins didn't do anything. They said I just get at the back of the line. That's their procedure. I didn't agree with that, but I didn't hire them, American Home Shield did, so I called American Home Shield to take that up with them and say, "I don't care who came after me. I called a week ago." After I called, they have put me back at the back of the line. My problem is not resolved. It's not a new problem so I lit a fire under them and said, "You need to manage this contractor. If you can't manage the contractor and they can't get out here sooner, then I expect you to find another contractor in the area. Obviously, there's a bazillion electricians, we're in The Triangle."

I've worked in purchasing and I have worked all kinds of crazy logistic things with different contractors, so you just go down the line. Call somebody else. Set up business with somebody else. You should have a number two. I was always in production. There was always a second manufacturer. If one was down, you just go to the other one. It was unacceptable that they didn't have a number two electrician in the area that they could call and ask if he can get there sooner.

It usually takes a couple of days to wait for something to get done. It's not, "Okay, we'll be out there tomorrow." It's, "Well, let’s see. It's Tuesday, we can get there Friday." If it's a ceiling fan, fine. I don't care. If it's a disposal or a dishwasher, somebody can hand-wash dishes. It's not gonna kill them. But the power was literally cut off to the house. There should be a waiting system to prioritizing. Everything is fixed now and AHS covered it. That is what we got it the policy for. The technician that came out for RJ Wiggins was wonderful. He was super friendly and accommodating. But the timeliness was horrible.

Recently a pump and lift station went out. Harrison Plumbing & Heating came out for it and they were very good. I was impressed with their knowledge, service and how well they took care of the issue. However, my first appointment was set up with another company that was probably 100 miles away from my location. I don’t know how AHS sets up the services but the other company happened to be on vacation when they were set up. My repair was delayed only because I did not know that it would take a while for them to complete the service ‘till they returned. I didn’t get any response from that company, and I called American Home Shield back and then they set it up with someone closer. Overall I’ve had excellent service from them and they’ve handled every situation very professionally.

Called AHS again this morning. Said they had not received proper information from the contractor assigned. Well 'somebody' is not doing their job! Sending in the payment is my job... my end is covered. Assign another contractor already! Called the contractor 3 times this morning. All I get is the guy that was suppose to be assigned to the job didn't show up for work. Can't reach him... Why not send another repairman with a water heater? Shouldn't be that hard people! Very Dissatisfied.

They have no problems taking their payday each month, but failed to do what they say they will do when it is needed. I have had my air conditioning system serviced so many times I've lost count.

They claim they have no information from the air-conditioning companies and that the carbon copy receipts that the air conditioning companies leave me would not be sufficient evidence. I would say to anyone looking to purchase a policy to stay far away. That this is a giant fraud at our expense! I'm beyond frustrated with all of the hoops I've been told to jump through. I was told the last time if the air conditioning company recommended that the unit be replaced that they would do so. Then when I have the carbon copy that states that now they are claiming not to have that paper and that even then it is not good enough. Now they are claiming my unit again needs a new part and in thousand dollars in Freon which they are trying to claim it is our responsibility. I will be pursuing litigation at this point.

I had gone out of the country and my wife and one of my kids had left about two months earlier. So my elder one and I have moved up of the house because all of his stuff is upstairs. We barely used the AC down and we were using the one upstairs. When I came back in about three weeks, I landed at night, and the AC wasn’t cooling. I initially thought it would take some time because the house has been kept quiet but apparently, a capacitor had gone, which was just coincidence that it blew up and I left. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online.

However, there were some confusions. For the first 10 days, nothing really happened. So then I actually called in and then the process was very smooth. Off the bat, I would prefer just picking up the phone and calling, but unfortunately, with AHS, they prefer it on the web. So what happened was it took about nothing less than 40 minutes to get to the first person to talk to. Once you get them, then it's always smooth sailing and taken care of, but to get to the person on the phone is always minimum 30 minutes ‘cause I've experienced that over four or five times. I just made it a point to try to follow up on the net, and only if the net doesn’t go through or the person doesn’t reach out to you is when you need to call into AHS.

When we finally got everything directed and then the company taking care of it called back, they said they tried calling me, but they couldn’t get through and that they left me a voicemail but there was none. I can consider that because I was out of the country for three weeks. It could just be the network. But I'm not worried about that. I would have liked to hear it a little faster because both my ACs were out. But overall, the experience was good. The only challenge I've always faced with AHS is getting through the customer service. Even so, AHS is a wonderful company to be with. I'm very comfortable even extending and continuing with them.

I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield over the phone, however, I have to stay on the line for over 30 minutes sometimes before I can get them to answer their phone. It also takes a while before they send somebody. I was with AHS one time, then I canceled it. Then one day I decided to try them again. I’m on a fixed income and I didn’t know whether I can afford it or not. I’m still with them but I was very upset about this Patriot Plumbing and with my insurance. I don't want other people to go through what I did. My water heater went out on the 19th of May and I didn’t get any service until the 25th of June. I was very frustrated by that.

The first thing Patriot Plumbing asked me for was the service charge. I said that it has been taken out of my checking account and that we don’t give it to them. They said that I had to pay them $190 before they would start working. I said that I got a credit card, but he said no and that they wanted cash. I had to pay them first and they said that if I didn’t have the money in 10 minutes, they were leaving. They looked at the heater, left, and came back in a week’s time for the water heater. They knew it was late. I had to pay out to over $2000 because the carpet got wet. They are very bad and I’ve sent a letter to the Better Business Bureau about them. AHS also still owes me some money. I had to call somebody in to do my water heater for me because I had a death in my family. I told AHS about that and they wanted his license and I’m waiting for his license to send it to them.

American Home Shield also called K&J for my AC but they never called me back. I had to call them, but they never came out. I canceled it, but I called them back again and they never called back. I called AHS and I told them that K&J didn’t respond and they sent out Tommy Garner Air Conditioning & Heating. Tommy Garner was the only one who had come out on time. The guy who came out said that I should have asked for them for our water heater because they worked on my AC in the winter time. I had trouble with the AC in the winter time in January and they worked on it and came back out here when I had the trouble with it the last time. They were very good and my AC's working good now. I was completely satisfied with them and I would recommend them to anybody.

My father, who is in Louisiana, recommended American Home Shield. He is a contractor with them and he sees good customer service from them. We’ve been with them for a number of years now. I’ve had two service calls this month. One was to repair my washing machine. I was getting an error message and it wasn’t working properly. That was resolved yesterday and it’s working fabulously.

The other one was for my ice maker. I had it repaired a couple of weeks ago and it worked after the contractor left but all of a sudden, it stopped working again. I know because of my warranty, I have a 60-day callback. I called American Home Shield back and alerted them of the same issue. Ironically, it’s the same contractor at M-Tech who does my appliances and they contacted me but they are different people because of their skillset and so, they put me back in touch with their appliance company. They called me back and they’re coming out tomorrow to troubleshoot and see if they can see what’s going on and resolve the issue. That repeat visit is covered under my warranty. I’ve always had positive experiences with this particular contractor and they’re always on time, courteous and professional and they always resolve my problems. I have confidence that they’ll come back and will figure this problem out.

I’ve also had positive experiences with American Home Shield in general. I’ve heard different people with different problems and complaints but for me personally, every time I’ve used the service in my warranty, I’ve never had any concern or issue. When I call, they’re responsive. The contractors would also call me within 24 to 48 hours and they’ve always been quick to get someone to come out and service me. In fact, my contract was just renewed at the very end of July. We talked about it in my family if we should keep the warranty or we should go to someone else. We’ve been treated fairly so far and to our satisfaction so we will keep our contract in place.

Also, there was a time years ago, when I had a newborn and my AC went out and it was gonna take a while. It was summertime in Atlanta and the HVAC guys were backed up just to begin with but I remember alerting them that I have a newborn and that they need to get the AC fixed. They put me up a little higher as a priority and I appreciated that. However, there was also an HVAC company that came out to service me and after the guy assessed what my situation was, he went back to his company and the next thing I know, I had one of their salesmen come out to my home with a big folder and tried to sell me a new unit. He said that my unit is really old. They took my warranty service call to sell me a new product.

I looked at him and told him that’s why I have my warranty because when things like this happen, American Home Shield will cover it and as long as they’re continuing to cover my equipment, I don’t need to buy a new unit. I called American Home Shield and I told them not to send me that company to my home ever again. AHS listened to me and the next company came out and they were fabulous. It was a good experience. I referred my sister to American Home Shield and she signed up in the last twelve months. Also, I tell others of my positive experiences and how my home issues were resolved. I’ve had great customer service and attention to my needs.

I had a leak in my clothes washer. AHS sent out one guy and he was horrible and rude. When he came in, he couldn’t find anything wrong and accused me of putting too much soap in the washer which he said was causing it to leak. That didn’t make any sense to me at all because I was putting in the right amount. Then he just left.

Then, AHS sent me an email saying that according to the contractor, my problem was taken care of. But it wasn't true and I told them that. Customer service called me and I told them that the guy said that I put in too much soap. But after he was gone, I let the washer run for a couple more times with no soap at all, just with plain water, and the damn thing was still leaking. So, their rep said that they'd let the contractor know and reschedule. AHS then called me back and said that the tech refused to come back because he said that it was what it was and there was no point for him coming back out again. AHS' rep asked if I wanted to have a second opinion. She also said that if the second person found something different, that would be fine. But if they found that it was what the first person said, then I would be charged two service fees.

I agreed and the second company that they sent out was a much smaller company but they were so much better. It was just a husband and wife team because the woman called me up from that company and I explained to her the problem. She then told me that she would have their technician call me 45 minutes before he would be coming to my house so that I could run the machine on and have it running. When the tech came, he saw where it was leaking from and he pulled the thing out while the other guy just looked from the top and down into the machine. The second guy actually pulled the machine away from the wall and chipped it so he could see the bottom. He found that there was a hole in the hose underneath the machine and that the problem was with some kind of a part of the drain where the water drains out. It was probably because the machine is so old. So, they ordered the part and took care of it.

The claim submission with AHS is really easy because I just go online and put it in. And the times that I have done it, the contractor called me up very quickly. I’ve used them for my swimming pool and garage door opener as well, and except for that first washing guy, everybody they sent had been fine. However, I was dissatisfied when I submitted a claim for the air conditioning and they did not warrant the Freon. They also paid a limited amount for it. When I bought the house, I had Republic as my warranty company and they didn’t have that limitation of only covering $10 per pound. I learned it the hard way that it was a bad thing because when my air conditioning went out this year, it somehow lost the Freon and a valve was loose. AHS replaced the valve but they had to put back in the Freon and it cost me $350.

I gave Rapid Rooter Plumbing a $75 check but I didn’t know that American Home Shield was also gonna charge my card. So I ended up with a double payment. I’ve been trying to get it back but they're having to verify with the plumber that they had actually gotten the check. I also told the plumber about the issue and he said he tore the check up but he didn't. He deposited it. We had called them out to unclog the drain and it ended up being a different problem but everything's fine now. It was also easy to submit the claim online and the plumber got out really quickly. They were all friendly and helpful too.

The contractor that was sent out for our AC was very knowledgeable and pleasant, and knew what they were doing. They resolved my situation better than others that had come out, so I was very pleased with them. Although the air conditioner is not working 100%, it's working better than it was.

Whenever we submit claims to AHS, we usually hear from their contractor on the next business day. Texas Best Heating and Air had to come out to my house twice. The first time, my AC was overflowing into the hot tub. The drain had clogged up and water was coming down under the ceiling. Though most of the time, we really like AHS' contractors, we had one technician from Texas Best whom we thought was a little shady. The next time they came out, it was the owner who came and he said that he had to fire that technician. I didn't want to leave him in a room where I had valuable stuff. Nevertheless, Texas Best did a good job. Their technician even explained how I could detect the problem earlier in the future.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to friends. My water heater was leaking when I submitted the claim online on a Friday afternoon. It was very easy to do and the contractor contacted me over the weekend. But it wasn’t an emergency so they came on Monday. They were perfect on the phone and in person. And they knew everything to do. They had clearly dealt with American Home Shield before. My water heater was replaced and installed in less than a week. It was very fast.

In the past, AHS had been good. It was recommended to me and I thought I would have a good experience. I thought that I was gonna be covered, that I was gonna be okay and that somebody was gonna be taking care of me. But my experience turned out not to be so great. Nothing was really looking out for me, not even American Home Shield.

The contractor they sent out was from Odessa which was two hours away. Come on. American Home Shield can get somebody local, right? The air conditioner wasn’t blowing any air and he said that the issue was the pads. He told me some excuse and I was left without air conditioner for a week. I’m a senior citizen and the temperature was 100 and some. I had to call another person to help me and I had to pay for the service. The issue wasn’t the pads and the air conditioner was A-OK after that. Despite that, my money was taken by American Home Shield. According to them, the call was still made and I would still have to be charged for that. Then they said they were only gonna charge me half the amount but I never saw that other half in my account.

My interaction with their representative was not very good either. I am actually paying to be called a liar. I was in customer service and I was never trained to make my customers feel like they were lying. My customers paid my check so I appreciated my customers. My company did too. The issue with American Home Shield’s customer service representatives is lack of training. On top of that, waiting for somebody for thirty minutes on the phone is a long time. They tell us that we can call early in the morning because they would get our call right away. But some people don’t have that time. I can use technology and do claims online but I relate better on the phone. I prefer one-on-one service if I can have that. It would be great if AHS could have a system where a customer’s place in line is held and then the reps can call us. I've stayed with American Home Shield but I'm gonna be looking for another company now.

Both of my AC's quit working. The fan of the AC worked but there was no cooling at all and it was very hot. AHS sent a repairman and when he came, I found out that neither one of the AC had any more coolant fluid so he refilled both of them. One of them had leaked some, so he put an anti-leak component into the refrigerant. Then later the one upstairs was not cooling and when he came back, he found that there was a failed capacitor and he happened to have it with him. He replaced it and everything has been fine since then.

The repairman was punctual and polite. He asked me if I had changed the filters because that's very important and I said that I had changed the one I could find, but I had not been able to find the other one. He knew exactly where it was and he said that if I happen to have a filter of that size, he would replace it for me. He went out to the truck, got a ladder and brought it in because it was on the ceiling. I’m 78 and I don’t get up on ladders anymore. He was very thoughtful and he went beyond the call of duty which I appreciated very much. I was very satisfied with AHS.

They determined that replacing parts on it may stop the leak and it did initially. It wasn't leaking but from the spot where they replaced the valve, I felt moisture. Once I told them that, they came back out and said it wasn’t just that valve that needed to be replaced and that I was gonna have to have the water heater replaced. When they came and installed the water heater, there was a charge for modification that had to be done, just so the warranty would remain intact. So I did have an out-of-pocket cost. Nevertheless, I got hot water here now so that's good.

I've been with American Home Shield for over a year and our experience has been awful. The people they sent out were just too unprofessional. One guy said it was something on my refrigerator -- it’s a double-door freezer. He put something and then he said, “Give it enough time. If it’s not getting cold, call me back.” I said “Okay.” The freezer side is cold, but not cold enough to freeze ice. The other side is not. I wouldn’t even put no food in there ‘cause it was not cold. I then called the number, but there was nobody answering. They also have an 800 number on there where if you call that number, they will get back with you. I also sent a text, but it did not do anything. Then finally, I got the guy back out here for the refrigerator.

When he came, I was trying to text him to give me a little time to get downstairs ‘cause I have a muscle spasm. I was looking through my window, and he was looking at his phone. By the time I was downstairs, he was pulling off and then he was gone. He didn’t get in touch with anyone, and it was just a bad experience. Then, the guy for the appointment called me to set up an appointment between 10:00 and 12:00.

So I called them back when I got a break at work. I said, “I get off at 10:00. I’ll meet you at the house.” He said, “Well, I was wanting to get you early, but I’m on the other side of Charlotte.” I said, “What has that got to do with me? I’m paying for this service. You should have been coming here.” It only takes me 10 minutes to get to my house from my job. He then said that I stay close to him, and I did not like to hear that, and he was talking out loud. I asked him to give me a time when he wanted to come. He said he would call me when he had got through with a job. He called to where I stay at, and I’ve been getting the runaround with them. My husband was also getting mad about it. He wondered if they screen these people when they come in people’s houses given the way they act.

Someone called today. He came out and looked at the garbage disposal that I've been calling for. They should have been coming out around the time the other one was coming out. They are coming out tomorrow. I also talked to a gentleman, who was sounding kind of hostile, yesterday. He tried to satisfy me, and I said that I've been a faithful customer, we have put money in this and this is our first claim, and we get the runaround like this. They need to show me something. I’d rather take a loss than go through this.

I eventually went through PMC, my service. I used to have it with them, but they do not offer as much as the home warranty. Nevertheless, they have offered a lot of stuff I want to be covered. They were more professional than the ones AHS sent out. They were also here when they say they would be here. If I tell them, “Please call into the house and I will be there at the door”, they do it. The numbers I call, they answer it. Overall, I'm dissatisfied with my experience with AHS and I wouldn’t recommend them.

He left after refusing to repair the issue. We called and American Home Shield stated that they would send another repair guy to look at the duct work of the a/c unit and obviously only charge us $75 once for the service call.

After the second repair guy came and patched up the leaky air from the a/c, American Home Shield charged my account another $75 even though they made it clear to me that they would not. I have tried calling 3 times to try to get the $75 removed. Each time, I wait on the phone for 45 min and get someone telling me that the charge will be removed and nothing happens. I have had AHS for nearly 4 years but am about to cancel my contract due to their terrible contractors. My dishwater was not working properly in May so a tech came to look at it and claimed it was due to low water pressure from my kitchen faucet, so I had to get that fixed first. Fine, $75.00 service/co-pay paid and I call AHS again to send me a plumber to fix my faucets. Plumber (Action Plumbing) never shows up to my house and I call both the plumbing company and AHS to see what happened. No solution so finally 3 weeks later a different plumbing company arrives. They take a look at it, tell me it's low water pressure but not sure why it's low so will come back to try to fix it... another $75.00 service fee charged.

The only problem is that they never came back to fix the faucet. I was patient and gave them time and finally called the plumbing company and they said they will get back to me but of course never did. So I called AHS and complained and they were going to send me the original company (Action Plumbing) back to my house. Why?!? I finally agreed to have the second company to come back to my house to fix the problem, except they are coming back to just evaluate and diagnose the issue, and not fix it!

I told AHS, "Do not waste my time because the company already looked at my faucet." I need it fixed not evaluated! So after $150.00 and 3 months later, only one plumber has been by to look at my sink, and I still have a broken dishwasher and faucets with low water pressure. And it gets even better, AHS then tells me low water pressure isn't covered under my warranty. It appears the contractors only want to do work that is not covered by AHS so they can charge more compared to what AHS would reimburse them. The dishwasher technician just punted the job to someone else and that current plumber is trying to punt it off to another person. Overall just a terrible experience.

When my son bought his house, I gave him a home warranty from AHS. I truly thought that it was the best product out there - boy was I mistaken! Hours were spent on the phone, in person and through emails trying to resolve a plumbing issue. For four months, my son and daughter lived with sewage spewing into their dishwasher and on the kitchen floor and the best AHS could do was send plumbers out to evaluate the problem. AHS refused to clean the main line because the cleanout wasn't located inside the house. Who has a sewer clean out inside their house? Guess it was their way of ignoring the problem. They use shady contractors, in addition to some really good contractors whose hands are generally tied.

Sewage bubbling in the backyard, sewage on and under the kitchen floor. A dishwasher that has to be disposed of. All phone calls with AHS were recorded. Four months of this one issue. A hazard to the health and well being of everyone in the house. Just days later, raw sewage filled the dishwasher - all from running water in a sink. Contacted the CEO of ServiceMaster (parent company) and head of AHS consumer services. 6 days later, still no return call or email.

In the interim, my son spent over $750 to have the lines "diagnosed" and cleaned. AHS left them with raw sewage in the flooring and dishwasher and didn't have time to respond for over a week - it's been in the 90's outside! Meanwhile all of the toxic fumes have saturated the house, air conditioning ducts and lungs of my family! Due to AHS's lack of concern for anyone and their negligence in fixing this improper installation to begin with, the cost of remediation is now in the thousands of dollars. Horrible company. Never hire or gift them.

The contractor had recharged our Freon and within that short amount of time, he couldn't even remember how much Freon he had used for us. I think he had gotten a phone call and gotten distracted. I don’t think it was the worst though. He diagnosed the problem and took care of it.

We had two air conditioners in this house when we purchased it. With the air conditioning, the fine print slices and dices up what they're gonna pay so much that it didn’t really cover anything for us. They cover so little on the air conditioning that in total, we paid $300 out of pocket. Even the contractor told us that AHS covers very little on air conditioners.

To get a basic home warranty would have been in the range of $300. We had to add on more for the air conditioner and then we had to pay that much out of pocket. It's not a lot of money but it makes me worry that if something more was to go out with the air conditioner they would cover virtually nothing. If you have air conditioning and you pay the additional to have it covered, it needs to be covered. The coverage is not robust and if you end up paying out of pocket then why have this thing? I've had other home warranties where I was more impressed. I feel that's AHS is a hokey home warranty and I'm not really happy.

The first contractor just took their time. I told them that my daughter’s pregnant and it’s hot in this house. When I'd call to check on the status of the parts, they’d tell me that I had to send an email to check the status of it and someone would call me back after 6 o'clock. But no one ever called. I called day after day. And when they finally called me back, that was when I canceled.

I told AHS they don’t need to use those contractors anymore because they don’t return phone calls. They suck. They had to come out here twice and they still didn’t do what they needed to do. I told American Home Shield I did not want them coming back out here. And so, AHS set me up with somebody else locally but I told them I was no longer interested. But they said the parts were back and if they could schedule a time for the contractor to come out to replace it.

I love the new contractor and their prompt response. They came the next day, and the technician fixed it. He didn’t have to wait on any part. I also gave the new contractor the invoice that the first contractor gave me. He said what they put on there was not the problem. So, he felt like they just did something just to say they did something. Nevertheless, I love American Home Shield. They were very prompt when trying to resolve any issues that I had. He diagnosed the issue and it took until Monday to be able to gather up all parts to be able to make the necessary adjustments and repairs. Four days later, I had air conditioning. It was great. It was a 104 every day during those few days and it was absolutely miserable so we were pleased to have air conditioning again. Herrington was awesome and they were courteous. They were in and out and didn’t leave a mess. I’ve called American Home Shield twice and my experience has been very smooth, very simple and very straightforward each time.

Whenever I need to file a claim with American Home Shield, I prefer doing it online. Their website is easy to use, the response is usually really good, and I get an email confirmation that so and so company will be contacting me shortly. With the most recent claim that I filed online, the contractor that they sent, Service Contractors Plumbing, knew what the issue was within seconds. My garbage disposal decided to stop working, had a leak in it, and they ended up replacing it. The tech got it done in 15 minutes and was out of here. It was great.

The air conditioning stopped working. I called American Home Shield and their reps were very efficient. They took my information down then emailed me the people that would be coming to fix it. But I didn’t know when they were coming and it was probably because the contractor would have to call me and tell me. I had a very good interaction with the contractor though. I left my office and went back to meet them when they got there and they worked on the AC. That was on Tuesday and unfortunately, they could not fix it while they were there. So, they had to come back on Friday and finish the job. Still, they let me know what was going on and there wasn’t any question as to why they were doing it. They had to order a couple of parts and wait for the parts to come in. I did not like that but there wasn’t anything that I or they could do about it. And now, the AC is operating fine.

Having a warranty is very valuable. I have it on my home and on my rental home. I travel a lot and the warranty allows me to be able to have things done whether I’m there or not. I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to my sister, my brother-in-law, and a few others. My brother-in-law has already done Home Shield based on my recommendation.

When I have an issue and I submit claims with AHS, I do it over the internet or sometimes try it on the phone. The thing about the internet, however, is you cannot describe the issue in detail so that the repair person knows what it is and can at least prepare for it. Like for this most recent claim we filed where our air conditioner is way too loud but the person said it is quite normal so there is no need to do anything at that time, I could only select air conditioning and that was it. Because of that, it would take up more time of the contractor being in my home. With this last issue, it could take five minutes. But the next time that the AC would need repair, it would probably take three hours, so it is important to know what kind of issue the contractors might experience.

If I call AHS, I can describe what the issue is. That’s why it is my preferred method, but then sometimes, it takes too long to wait until somebody picks up the phone. “Too large call volume,” that’s what you'll hear whenever you call. Then with this air conditioning company, when I called them, the first message said they will call me within 30 minutes but they never called so I have to call again. They called back at night as if they only have one person. It looks like it’s a bigger company but it seems like there are not too many people who do administrative work and they could not tell the timeframe when the technician was coming.

The technician called the night before and told me he's coming between 9:00 and 11:00 which was good because at least they'd come. But sometimes, I've had to wait the whole day and because of work, that’s not possible. This happened twice and then we even said if they are not coming with the times, then there would be no future contract with them, so somebody showed up. It is very important that they'd give me a more narrow timeframe because I'd be losing my time. The window of two or three hours is good, so we can plan for it.

We’re completely over American Home Shield and all of their vendors. I'm paying for somebody to come out and brush me off or do the cheapest possible work. An issue is gonna be fixed for two minutes and then, it's gonna break again. The spa wasn't working properly and a guy came out and said it works fine but that was not true. It still doesn’t. The ice maker broke again and it still doesn't work. Also, for the dishwasher, we ended up removing part of the plastic tray ourselves and it finally stopped leaking after we paid the guy three times to come out. The hot tub still doesn’t work properly, and we're really frustrated and tired of it, especially when American Home Shield seems to be more concerned about the $75 and the feedback.

They're finding the cheapest vendor to literally put a Band-Aid and not really address the issue. The quality of the vendor and of the staff that they're hiring and the process itself have gone to crap just like the rest of the home warranties out there. So, we won't be renewing because there's no point. We'll just pay to fix it ourselves and get down the road.

Also, the guy who came out for our bathtub said the repair was totally covered under the warranty. And then, the warranty company called us and said it wasn't covered. They made some excuses why it wasn’t gonna be covered. The guy apparently did not wanna make a repair. It was a tough repair. He said they had to order the part and it would be a couple of weeks. And then, he told American Home Shield that it wasn’t normal wear and tear. The house we just bought is 17 years old so I couldn't understand how an original fixture being broken is not normal wear and tear. I was super pissed.

I also took time off work to accommodate their Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00 schedule because that’s all any of them work. American Home Shield is speeding them so they don’t have to work nights and weekends. So, they don’t accommodate customers anymore and they don’t care. We ended up having to figure out how to fix the bathtub ourselves by watching it on YouTube. It was $50 in parts and a day of my husband’s time. It wasn’t normal wear and tear. It has been repeated on every warranty call that we've had at this house that we just bought in March. It's very disappointing because American Home Shield used to be the standard of excellence in the industry. I was a realtor in Texas and I was affiliated with American Home Shield, and the way that they treat their people out here in Nevada is shameful.

I called, put in a claim and they sent out Quality Air HVAC. I was told I need a new compressor. I asked both men at different times, "Is that all I need?" And they both confirmed yes. Two days later I get a call from Quality Air HVAC saying I need to pay $300 dollars for the fluid that go in the compressor. I was so disappointed in AHS that they sent this company representatives out who didn't give a full work order that needs done. Therefore I was not paying the $300. Just do my compressor. 8-9-18 was the date we agree for them to come out and put in the new item.

I took off work and they never showed up. Called back the next day and spoke with a supervisor name Darren and he said their system was down. There was nothing he could do. Email, phone call is something I would say. So today 8-13-18 Quality Air HVAC came to fix it and said I need a Line Set modification that cost $85 dollars. They sat there until I called in and paid. Just a horrible experience with this situation it seem like when you have an AC unit people see $$$$. I will find someone to put my coolant in before I call Quality Air HVAC. AHS can never send them to my house to change a light bulb.

We had to get it fixed. We had the air conditioner replaced, which was $8,000. We only realized later that we had AHS and that the air conditioner should've been covered by our policy.

We called and sent AHS all of the quotes, but they denied the claim. They said we should've contacted them first, which might be true, but it was bad faith as far as we're concerned since we have the policy, had gotten quotes, and did all the stuff we were supposed to do. We also probably used people that they would've used anyway. They could have at least partially honored the claim, but they didn't even respond. We weren't very happy with AHS. The guy they sent to fix the ice maker was fine, though. We didn't get charged for that, but that wouldn't have cost as much to get fixed and we probably could've fixed it ourselves.

I had a claim with my air conditioner a couple of weeks back and it was really something because it was right when we were going through a heatwave. I have a 98-year-old mom that I take care of and I couldn’t have her hot like that. American Home Shield got a company out here and that company fixed stuff up. I can't thank those people enough. Then, my most recent claim was for my refrigerator. Water was filling the bottom of it. I called American Home Shield and their reps were very nice and professional. They told me that they would get somebody out here as soon as they could then a guy from Mr. Appliance of East Texas came out. He was really nice and he explained everything that he was doing and why it was necessary to do it. He didn't have to do that, but he did. He helped me out a lot and the refrigerator has been working in peak condition since then.

Our insurance from Home Shield seems to be good but we keep getting a bill from them for something that we already paid. There was a prepayment that was required for their services and my wife paid it with a credit card. We ended up having to contact three different contractors in order to get their work done. And for some reason, the prepayment was not transferred from the first and second people that they contacted. Still, the services were fine. I was just somewhat discouraged by the contractors they have in response. We had an AC issue. We called AHS and they set up the first contractor who then couldn’t make it out here for about two weeks.

The temperature was running about 104 degrees that day and I don’t live in the house by myself. My granddaughter and great-grandchildren live here and we couldn't wait for the contractor to take two weeks to get here. So, we contacted the second people. The first people were the ones that required the prepayment of $75. We thought that the prepayment would automatically transfer over to the second people being that the first ones did not respond to it. And then, the second people set a time and my granddaughter sat there and waited for them to show up and they never did. Even if they had to charge an additional time, they could have at least attempted to go out and take a look.

So then, we called the third company and that particular prepayment should have been transferred to the person who came out. It took a day and a half for the him to make it out here. Even so, when he finally came, he checked the AC and found that the problem was just a blown fuse. He reset it and it seems to be running fine now. I would recommend Home Shield to a friend without any problem.

American Home Shield is a good company. Our pool pump was not working and the pool guy told us that it needed to be replaced. We phoned our warranty service, which sent out the guy who said it was just the capacitor. So he was able to save us quite a bit of money, about 500 bucks, just by changing up the capacitor. He did a great job. Sunbright, the contractor, was excellent, and he was very courteous and knowledgeable. AHS has been excellent. Out of the other ones I’ve had, it is proven to be the best one. I highly recommend them.

My air conditioner was clogged up and I tried to get the line to clear, but I couldn’t. I called up American Home Shield and told them that I wanted Total Air Care. They've come out a few times and have always been good. The other people that have come out have been much worse. The contractors from Total Air Care were very nice, but couldn’t come out during my timeframe. It took them three days.

My neighbor was complaining about AHS to me just yesterday. I said she didn't need to buy a whole new air conditioning unit yet. She said they were ripping her off. I said that I don’t think they were. Then she dropped it and listened to these other guys. She went and bought a new air conditioning unit out of her own money after paying all that money to AHS. I said she could have let it go until her air conditioning unit died.

Some people don’t like AHS, but I know what I’m doing. I watched what my husband did and I learned from it. Now that I’m divorced, I do exactly what he did. I’m better at most things that men do. I kick people out of here and I tell AHS I need other people. I tell AHS that the ones they send are trying to rip me off and AHS takes care of it. They have saved me the hassle of trying to find contractors, but sometimes they mess up with their billing.
