I’m pleased with American Home Shield and I’m a fan. They do a good job and they are extremely fair. I’ve been with them for three years and it’s a nice blanket. I like to talk to people but they do a lot of things online. They can do everything by machine and although I’m not comfortable with it, it has worked. I leave my messages and I get a call from a contractor the next day. They get out within a reasonable amount of time. The people that American Home Shield sent out did a great job. My first experience with their contractors was when they replaced the oven and the contractor did a phenomenal job. Also, the air conditioning people were phenomenal. When I had a wiring issue, the contractor ended up having to re-wire something to get everything back on track. I have recommended AHS to my children and my sister. I’ve shared about them with anybody interested because AHS did a good job.

I just bought my first house and a warranty with American Home Shield was part of the deal in the house buying process. The first time that I’ve had to use the warranty, it was for my air conditioner and I submitted my claim online. My interaction with the contractor, Artech, went well. But the claims process was a little slow due to going through AHS and then going through the contractor instead of calling a service company directly. I was without an AC for five days at a time when the temperature was 95 to 100 degrees in my house, so that made me gripey. But the contractor got my AC repaired and it's wonderful now that they’ve been out. I’ve already recommended AHS to most of the people that I work with and to my friends, and I've told them to look up and see what the coverage options are. I have the refrigerator, the AC, and the appliances covered by my AHS warranty, and if people are looking for any type of insurance like that, they need to call AHS.

Originally, the compressor of the air conditioner quit working. The contractor came out on Tuesday and found a short wire. Then, it went out again and I heard it pop. The guy came out on Thursday and said it had an internal short in the compressor, but it only shorted out every now and then. But since then, I haven’t had any air conditioning for three weeks. The contractor said I needed a new air conditioner, but American Home Shield would only pay to have the compressor replaced on a 15-year old unit that uses a Freon that’s gonna be against the law in a year or two. It's silly to be replacing just the compressor. They are putting a band-aid on an open wound.

I’m getting a runaround because I kept calling them and they said the parts weren’t ordered. And then, a real estate agent gave my wife the number of the area rep. AHS then said it was on hold because they were gonna give me the buyback option. I told them that I've been waiting for 10 days but nobody ever called me on that. Now, they're telling me the part won't come until next Thursday.

Going on three weeks, I still have no air conditioning in the middle of the summer. I got breathing problems since I had a lung removed from cancer a couple of years ago and I’m on disability. In the meantime, I borrowed a couple of window units. Although we renewed the contract with AHS for a year, I’d be replacing that air conditioner on my own after this is all said and done because I can’t deal with it anymore. I have a buddy that owns his own heating and cooling business. He told me they have the part on their shelves. Overall, I’m very upset with our situation and I would not recommend them to anybody.

When our refrigerator's compressor went out filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and it was easy. We didn't have a refrigerator for a while because it was cheaper to wait it out. It was hard to find anybody to even fix the fridge because it has this crumbs and the repair man doesn't know what to do on their part. The contractor was pretty clear about what was going on and professional. They confirmed what the issue was, which we already knew, and then had to get the part and get it on the fridge. For the price, American Home Shield covered a lot. If something else breaks, I can call them for anything. It was a lot easier than doing everything directly with the appliance companies. Also, I like that you can cancel. You're not in a contract. AHS is the best value for what you pay. They do what they say they will.

Speaking to an AHS rep is pretty straightforward, but there have been some things that I’ve called about that they don't cover. My air conditioning repairs have been back and forth, and I feel like I have to use somebody good. I had a lot of AC problems back last year and a year before last. I had to replace two compressors outside and American Home Shield didn’t give me that much choice replacing the compressors, which I’m a little disappointed with. I figured they’re covering the compressors and willing to fix them and then they said the compressors couldn't be fixed. If they were to go over them, it would be $600 towards a 5-6,000 unit.

The tech that came over was very professional and did his job, though it took him a while to figure it out. It was an electrical type short that was in the thermostat and I had two compressors down because of that same problem. I’m disappointed as these two units that went down are less than a year old. I should’ve called the manufacturer over ‘cause the units are under warranty, but instead, I called American Home Shield. Other than that, everything was fine.

I’m a realtor and we sell the policies of American Home Shield in the office. I gotta believe in the company since I push their product and I’ve been with them for four years. I’ve had good people before with American Home Shield but in my latest claim for my AC, they sent A-Advanced Home Services and I didn’t like the two guys. They were the same guys who were out at my house for a service call for my boiler back in winter and they did such a lousy job that I had to pay an independent to come in and repair their job. I told Donna, the rep, that I wanted them taken off my customer service list. When I had a heat pump problem and the same two guys showed up, I was a little bit upset and they asked me what was wrong. I told them what I thought was wrong and they believed me but they replaced the part. They didn’t check the rest of the system and the senior person was not fun to be around. He belittled the other guy throughout the service.

The senior level of the two-person team was horrible. He was the one who did the lousy job. They put my boiler in a position where I could’ve blown up if I hadn’t called the guy that did the installation. They should be taken off the list of AHS because they have a lot at risk and they don’t want guys who can’t do the job out there. I have two heat pumps and a boiler, I have the dual heating and cooling system at my house and if I needed a major repair and these guys showed up, I wouldn’t let them work in my house. The level of expertise is questionable and I don’t think either one of them has a license. In the winter repair, they had to call back to the office to find the how to do things. AHS would not want those people representing them.

The swamp cooler wasn’t throwing out hot air. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the people that they submitted to make an appointment within 24 hours didn’t get back to me until seven days later. I let AHS know that the company never called me within the 24 hours that they were supposed to. I canceled the request on the fifth day because we needed it to be done within three days since it was hot and they refunded the $75 that I paid. But the other times we've had claims, like the furnace and washer, were perfect and awesome. Their customer service was really good and the reps were helpful. I would fully recommend anyone who’s purchasing a home to get an insurance like this.

We've used our AHS warranty on this house quite a bit 'cause it's an older home. My parents just bought a house and we had them get it as well when they signed up for their home warranty service. My husband usually goes online and submits claims there and he seems to have it down pat. We've used it on many occasions. The pool guy that comes has been the same one that's been coming out, and he's pretty quick. Recently the pool pump was working one minute and then all of a sudden, it stopped. Initially the repair was fine, but then a little leak developed and we contacted within 30 days, and the pool guy came back out, fixed it and we're all good again.

We have had AHS for a few years now and we’re really glad that we have it because we’ve had to use it and it’s a good company to work with. I had to make several phone calls just to ask them questions and the reps were very polite. Someone else tried to get us to get their insurance and I told them that we’re sticking with AHS. The AC at my rental home has been leaking from the attic. It is an issue that started out in 2016. The contractors sent by American Home Shield came and cleared it out. Then, they came back recently and cleared it again. Now the tenant just called and told me that he is having the same issue. The water is now pouring out from my ceiling and I had the ceiling fixed last week when they left thinking that the problem was solved.

I called American Home Shield last night to reschedule another visit from the same company to come by and try to rectify the issue. This has been an ongoing problem and it would be the third time once the company comes out this time. But the company has not called me yet to give me the new schedule. I don't know if something needs to be changed out or replaced.

It has cost me $200 to get the ceiling replaced over the weekend and now, I'm right back to square one where I'm gonna have to do the same job again because the initial problem was not taken care of. I don't know how we could come to some kind of compromise where I could get some financial help for what I've been having to put out with this issue. I need for the company to either recommend some kind of change or whatever needs to be done. I just would like it to be done.

Nonetheless, I've been with American Home Shield for many years on the rental property and before I got the issue with the AC again, I just generated a contract with AHS for the current retirement home I’m living in. I matched the same coverage that I have with my rental and it’s gonna be implemented in September 2nd. I have also recommended American Home Shield to so many of my colleagues that I work with. Whenever I submit a claim, I do it over the phone and the process is usually very straightforward. I call them and once they come on the line, they verify my contract and property information and I tell them what the issue is. They then tell me who the company will be, the number and that the company will contact me within 24 to 48 hours.

The plumber that AHS sent was very nice but I gotta call him back because he didn’t screw the stool down on the one side. It’s just sitting there. At the same time, I put in a claim with the AC but the contractor never showed up. They never called and by the time they notified me, I just told them to forget it. Their rep apologized though and said that it just got overlooked somehow. Other than that, I feel very good with my experience and I’ve recommended American Home Shield.

Our garbage disposal unit was leaking. Submitting a claim to AHS was a very positive experience. I entered it online at 10:00 in the evening. And by 9:30 the next morning, there was a plumber in our house fixing it. It took less than 12 hours from the time I entered the request to the time they fixed it. The plumber was also very courteous and professional. I was just very impressed with AHS. The initial feedback I had been given from other people and from Realtors, with respect to American Home Shield, was that it took a very long time to come in and address the issue. But our experience is the opposite.

It took a long time to get somebody to come out when my water heater got broken. But it was kind of an emergency because water was possibly seeping through one of the walls. So I had to press them to get the plumber to come out right away. But they were giving me an argument about it. Then once the plumber came, they wanted to charge me for extra piping instead of using what was existing. The water heater that was installed had gone bad. But it was part of remodel and so it was permitted. I had copper pipes and they wanted to charge me $175 for removing the copper pipes and putting in PVC. It was shady and I put my foot down. It took several days before I could get the water heater installed and I was without hot water. So I was not happy with that service provider.

I’m not really thrilled with American Home Shield because of that really frustrating claim. But this most recent claim with my ceiling fan worked out very well because of their provider. It was easy submitting the claim and when I placed the service call, I already told people exactly what the ceiling fan was. So when the electrician came in, the guy knew the fan and the parts I was gonna need. He was really excellent. They had to order a part and I was expecting to have to wait and wait but Sunbelt Electric was great. The fan was repaired within 10 days and anytime I called Sunbelt, they were amazing.

I pay American Home Shield $40 a month and they charge $100 for a service provider to come on site. So I’m not going to use them if I think I can get something fixed for less than a hundred bucks. But it’s good to know I have my air conditioning and my plumbing covered by them. The warranty is a little bit expensive but when you’re not a handyman yourself, getting a warranty is something that needs to be done.

We filed claims for our microwave and for our refrigerator during the same week and everybody was great. The contractors called ahead, showed up on time and did what they were supposed to do. We have upper and lower ice makers on the refrigerator and the upper unit freezes up. So we wanted the technician to address that and the issue was resolved on the spot. For the microwave issue, a part has been ordered and it would be coming in on October 1st. The contractor will then come back and stick the part in. It's a real small part which costs about $10 but we don't wanna continue using the microwave unless it was deemed to be safe. American Home Shield also sent out Total Air Care for our air conditioning unit before. They did great even though we had had the unit serviced ourselves within the last couple of months. It wasn't getting cold enough but they added a little bit of Freon and we were good to go.

On our first year with American Home Shield, the coverage was just on the whole house. Our first claim was a small air conditioning visit and it was great. Then we upgraded to the appliance coverage and that's what the refrigerator and the microwave are covered under. So we're very happy. I've also recommended American Home Shield to my daughter who bought a new house.

I called American Home Shield about my refrigerator and my washing machine both, and I told them I didn't want Sears to come out. They gave me Quick Fix Appliance because they had worked on the refrigerator not too long ago. But they were so booked that they would not take the call for the washing machine. It was also over the weekend and it took a couple of days to get the technician out. But it took him about two minutes to figure out the issue. The first thing he did was check the filter and it had popped loose a bit. So when I would get water from the refrigerator, it would start out fine but then it would start making this god-awful sound and the water would stop.

The water filter was something that neither occurred to me, my husband or my son to check. So I went, “Oh, I’m sorry,” because it was late when he got here and I could tell he had been at it all day. But I like the people from Quick Fix and I’ve had no problem with the refrigerator since he left. So I highly recommend Quick Fix. I’m very pleased with them. That technician also fixed the problem that Sears had been out here five times for. Sometimes I don’t wanna pay for the warranty but so far I have been very pleased with having it. And I have been a customer for a long time. When you get to be 70 and your husband is 69, a home warranty is very valuable. My husband is not a handyman either.

The website was fine as well. The next day, the tech came out. He was very professional, on time and took care of the problem. However, I had to order one part because the issue was more complicated than what we all thought. And instead of just one part which he had, it ended up being two separate parts. I had him back out a week later for the second part. After the initial repair, I thought I had a problem with the dryer again and AHS sent another person out. But then, the dryer was working fine. So it was one of those, "Oh yeah it's making that noise." And when they got here, it didn't make that noise.

I like how quickly the problem was taken care of. When I thought I was gonna have someone out here again to re-fix it, the original technician who fixed it was telling me it was gonna be another week just to get someone out here. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out here the next day so I very much appreciated that.

This is my 2nd year with American Home Shield and the technicians they’ve sent me have been excellent. I recently had an issue with my AC not cooling and they were extremely prompt. The young man who did the service call explained everything to me where I could understand it. I used to be with another warranty company for 18 years and when I had to replace an air conditioning unit, they were gonna charge me $5,200. I was then transitioning to American Home Shield and I was able to get the same equipment for $3,700. So, I kicked my previous provider to the curb. Also, I knew that American Home Shield has been in business for a long, long time and their monthly premium was a third of what I was paying. So I elected to pay a $100 service call, and it’s been well worth it.

I submit my claims over the phone and customer service has been great. I’ve called them on a weekend and they were very available. I could tell it was a call center, but they were very well trained. They asked the right questions and whatever it was they did, they transmitted the information. Within 24 hours I got somebody on the phone or text messaging me for an appointment. The whole process is very, very good. Every now and then there’s a complaint but overall I’ve had an excellent experience with American Home Shield. They’re a good company and they strive hard. Their customer service is excellent, very responsive and they seem to really pick good vendors. I’m a business person and I’m still working at the age of 69. I've been with American Home Shield since October and it's been a very good experience with them. They do an excellent job. I recently had an issue with my glass stove top which was cracked. I submitted a claim over the phone and it was good. They said it was from age and wear, and it just happens with glass stove tops sometimes. The first representative who came out was very nice. A part had to be ordered, then after about one week, a second representative came out. He was very courteous. Since then, everything's been working great.

Our A/C went out in the middle of summer in Arizona. They sent out a tech the next day who was extremely unprofessional and stated that the compressor was out. He said that it could take up to a week to get the part and not to call him and complain to him. He was extremely rude. I called AHS two days later to follow up on my claim and they stated that the part had been ordered and would arrive on Tuesday the 31st. Of course the technician never called and responded via email that he would not show up until the following Saturday on August the 4th...

Ok so Saturday we get a call from the technician telling us that it's the wrong compressor. He said he would be by but he had to stop and get coffee first, so he arrives 45 min late only to say that he ordered to right part but blamed AHS for sending him the wrong part. Unacceptable we have small children and our A/C has been out for a week. I'm up for renewal most likely will be going to a competitor once the issue is resolved.

After one month of waiting and 8+ hours of phone calls with AHS customer service and managers, we still haven't gotten our electrical issues fixed. We will let the warranty expire next year. AHS sent out a creep of an electrician who was rude to my wife and endangered our cat by leaving the door open. Then he didn't finish the job, leaving our wiring disconnected for weeks. When we complained, AHS said their policy is to continue to send the same service provider unless the customer provides legal documentation about the problem. That's right ladies: AHS will continue to send the same creep to your house unless you get a restraining order.

It took a 4-hour phone call to convince them to send a second electrician. The second electrician's secretary then lied about when they'd send someone. Every time we call AHS, they have no record of the previous call. For example, when they said, "We'll waive the fee for the first electrician," it still showed up on a bill a week later.

We purchased our retirement home and with that we selected American Home Shield, shame on me I should have done more research. We have had some plumbing issues but with no resolve. We have a septic system and bought the septic system extra piece with our contract. We were told by their plumber that the septic system was full and that was probably our problem. So I contacted American Home Shield and told them their plumber stated that we needed to have the septic pumped. Stated we that we paid for the septic coverage and we could have one pump a service contract so I was requesting that and that I currently cannot even use a toilet or shower, I expressed that to them. They said that they would have someone out the next day. They arrived and they do not do septic systems they were just there to assess the situation. WHAT???

So I called back quite a bit unhappy asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and the call center agent would not patch me through so she got an ear full and was the most unhelpful person ever. She had no idea how to calm an upset person who can't use a toilet. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AMERICAN HOME SHIELD TO ANYONE. Use anyone but them. We have spent the $595 for the contract $150 for two service calls and NOTHING HAS EVEN COME CLOSE TO BEING RESOLVED OR EVEN ANY DIRECTION GIVEN. We are now on our own because I do not want to waste another $75 AHS charge for nothing, how sad is that.

We are at the bottom of everyone's list because we are through a home warranty. So it's 100 degrees tonight, hotter in the house, and we won't hear from the AC people until tomorrow and it will be Tuesday before they can come out. They ALL will ALWAYS take care of their full-paying clients before ever booking to come out to a home warranty client. We spent $358 of our own money last time to fix the AC as it was cheaper than four nights in a hotel and boarding our pets. Probably the same tonight. When you call you are always on hold a very long time, and literally EVERY time we have called, we get disconnected after holding, sometimes twice.

During another time, my claim for the microwave oven took very long to finally get resolved because we thought that it could be repaired but the parts were not available anymore because of the age of the oven. Water was blowing out of one of our vents since we bought the house about a month ago and it ruined our ceiling. The company that was supposed to service it who’s already been out to fix it twice told me that they can’t get to it and that they’re going on vacation. That’s not professional. This issue continues to occur and the techs haven’t been able to fix it. It's ridiculous. I’m afraid as I get home tonight that I’m gonna find the vent lying on the floor because it’s weeping so bad.

Yesterday, American Home Shield lined up another company who said that they’d be here between 4:00 and 8:00 but they never called last night. I called and finally got somebody at AHS and they didn’t really care too much. I had to be proactive and look up the contractor, which is based in Florida and we live in South Carolina so that didn’t make any sense. I left them messages and they said that they forgot about it yesterday, so now we’re waiting until Sunday afternoon. The air has been cut off upstairs because I’m afraid that the ceiling is gonna collapse. The heat index is 105 degrees down here in Charleston, so it is blistering hot upstairs where my kids sleep. They have to sleep downstairs.

We are paying good money for getting the service that we need and I feel that we haven’t received that. AHS is basically leaving it in our hands. They also told us that the secondary damage that occurred to my house was not their fault and that they can’t help with it. The ceiling that is now water stained is all on me to fix which just seems weird. We also had a toilet that broke upstairs and flooded the downstairs and we called and had a plumber come out. He did a great job but he said that the problem that caused it was not normal wear and that I had to come out of pocket to pay for it.

The upfront guidance that is given to us by American Home Shield doesn’t seem to follow through any time there is some sort of claim. They always say that it’s not covered, so it’s a bit deceptive. AHS is still a good program though. We’ve had other issues that have been resolved. I call in my claims and I've used their online app as well. When I need to get an answer, I usually call but online is a lot quicker and easier and I usually get an email after.

I did two claims with American Home Shield for an air conditioner problem, and the first air conditioner guy was horrible while the second one was great. In the last one, we came home from vacation and my house was 92 degrees. I submitted a claim online and the company that they were gonna send out was the same company we had before that was horrible. Our craziest experience with the contractor company was after they contacted us two days later, it still took a couple of days for them to come out. Then they were really late and didn’t even fix the problem the first time. This time, AHS said it would be 48 hours but the contractor company never contacted us. So I contacted AHS and asked if there was someone else they could send out ‘cause I've got kids and a dog and we couldn’t stay in a 92-degree house for that long. They sent out another company called D&G, which was awesome. They came out that night and fixed the problem.

I submit claims online which seemed really easier ‘cause I don’t have to be on hold and wait for somebody. It doesn’t matter if it's 10 o’clock at night when submitting online because I can still do that. Whenever I called for customer service, it was always, “Experiencing longer hold time than normal.” Sometimes whenever I called to get a different air conditioner company out, it actually said, “If you'd like, leave your number and then we'll contact you when it's your turn in line.” I did that. However, the last time whenever I called due to an email that said that I owed money, I was on hold for 25 or so minutes.

After I was on hold, I spoke to a girl who was very helpful. She said that normally, if one company came out and then the issue came back within 60 days, then they're supposed to send the same company out ‘cause they didn’t fix it the first time. So, that was why they were sending Total Air again. Then she said there was someone else that she would get a hold of and call me back. She got a hold of them again and called me back and set up a time. So, it was really easy once I finally got through to somebody. Also, the plumbing contractor they sent out in June was great.

The wait time for service is not very good with American Home Shield. When I had an online claim with them for the microwave, first, they assigned it to the wrong contractor who didn't do it. And then when they found the right contractor, he came and he didn't have the part. The contractor ordered the part and it was the wrong one and it took more than two weeks to get it fixed. They billed me, but they were trying to bill me again for it because they didn't pay the right contractor. On the other hand, when I had a plumbing claim before that, it was a very good experience. The guy came and fixed it right away. He had the part with him.

When filing a claim with AHS over the phone, there are times that the line gets disconnected but when you do something electronically, it's not very effective. You can't even tell them what part you need. And even if you speak to someone, they don't take that information down, which is frustrating. It’s also very expensive. I pay them $60 a month and then $75 for the call and if you don't make any calls, you're paying a lot of money.

We had a problem with one of American Home Shield's contractors though. My refrigerator had developed a block of ice in it and it stopped the defrosting component from working. The contractor added some water to defrost it really fast. A couple minutes after he had left, I went down to the basement and saw water coming down from the refrigerator. I have a water line there for the icemaker, so the water went through that hole down into the basement. The contractor told me that he forgot to tell me to put towels down. My toilet downstairs kept flooding my living room. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I listed it as plumbing but told them that I thought that the toilet kept making a weird noise. The first contractor was Home Services of the Triad and a guy named Michael came out. He thought he fixed it but it shocked me that when he first came in to the house and he looked at the toilet and seen where it had flooded or exploded, it was the toilet but it was the bowl and it was not the base or the tank. Michael didn’t touch anything and he immediately told me that it was not covered.

He knew how to fix the problem, though, but he would have to pull the toilet up and then I would have to pay him an additional fee. I was trying to get the problem fixed and I agreed. As he pulled up the toilet, I went upstairs and I contacted American Home Shield. They only have people working for them who knew exactly the issues and if it wasn’t listed under my warranty, that contract should be able to tell me that it wasn’t. So, with that confirmation from AHS, I took it as that and I wouldn’t have to pay the guy. Then, Michael told me that everything was fixed and I shouldn’t have any more issues or problems. But three days later, it started happening again.

I recontacted the plumber company because if it wasn’t listed in the contract, then I figured American Home Shield wasn’t gonna be able to help me. But Home Services of the Triad contacted American Home Shield warranty because I was listed as a client with AHS. Another technician came, his name was Bryan. It was an actual emergency and not just that, I had to pay American Home Shield for the deductible fee even though it was denied and I ended up having to pay Michael. With me paying Michael, I thought that justified my services whatever needed to be done and it still wasn’t fixed, that they will come back out and they did not.

Before Bryan came out, Michael called me and asked what they said was wrong. I said the same thing happened which he said was crazy because he had fixed it. He wanted me to call him back and let him know what Bryan would say. In the meantime, someone told me that Michael was supposed to contact American Home Shield, let them know his assessment, and then they were supposed to call me and explain to me why his services was not covered. He did not do that and I didn’t know it because that was my second time dealing with AHS, so I didn’t know the process. They still hadn’t got the assessment that Michael had denied American Home Shield based off of my contract saying that it was not warrantied.

Bryan was nice. He came through the kitchen sink and he brought in a roto-rooter or snake and tried to clear the line that way. But no one could tell me what was clogging up the line. Michael and Bryan said that we should not use feminine products and flush. My daughter is 24 years old and I am 42 and I have a 17 year old, so we all know not to flush feminine products. But then they never could find anything in the line. Bryan thought he had flushed out the line and told me everything should be running smooth. But in four or five days, I had to get another appointment because it flooded again.

At this point, they still had not gotten the information back from Michael why the service was denied. And I think he didn’t deny services or turn in an assessment because he knew he took my money. The only thing that AHS did was credit me my money because the third plumber that I called was not with AHS but was based off of me looking into Google. I already had three floods by this time. They offered getting a confirmation from a different company and asked if a second opinion would make me feel better. The guy who came out showed me the clean-out pipe is directly in the bathroom where the flood was happening and he did the roto-rooter or the snake through that drain. That was the whole point why Michael denied my services and he charged me. But American Home Shield sent me a check for the amount that I paid to cover those expenses because he lied, he took my money, and it still was not fixed.

But the guy could not produce anything to show me why my bathroom was clogged up or why it was flooding as well. American Home Shield sent another company out, Advanced Appliance. When they came out, I did not like that they told me they set up an appointment with me and as it got closer towards the end of the day, I ended up contacting them to see what time the plumber was coming. They told me that they forgot and that the plumber was not there. He had called out that day and so he wasn’t gonna come. That was on a Monday morning.

They rescheduled me for a Friday and when that day came, they said that plumber was sick and was not there. Again, they didn’t call me and let me know that the plumber was not coming. I ended up calling again and they told me the plumber was not coming because he was sick. He was sick where he went to the hospital which I understood. But I thought their customer service reps would contact me and let me know.

I asked to speak to the supervisor because even if that was the only plumber that has the scope that can go down and look at the drain and see what’s clogging or blocking up the pipe, I felt like someone should have contacted me and let me know. The rep didn’t let me speak to the supervisor but she tried to sweeten me over. She told me that someone would come out and I had to wait again to the following Tuesday morning. I had to wait a whole week and when the plumber came out, he used the scope but didn’t fix the issue. He took pictures and that was it. I haven’t contacted American Home Shield. I don’t even know if it’s gonna happen again because we don’t know what made it happen in the first three times.

The contractors that AHS used, especially the first one who completely did me wrong, put a bad taste in my mouth and there has to be a little bit more checking on these contractors. Other than that, American Home Shield to me has been absolutely the best with customer service trying to help me get these issues fixed. I signed up for American Home Shield online and it took about four months after that before they started billing my account and providing me service. There was quite a delay in there and I wasn’t even sure if I had it. When I saw that they debited my account, that was how I figured out that I must have it. But when I submitted a claim online, the website was easy to navigate. The technician contacted me and he was half an hour late out of the window. But he came the next day and fixed everything in half an hour. So he was good.

We’ve been in this house with American Home Shield for 31 years now and the last two claims have been worth it. The last two were excellent technicians and I got the information and person within a reasonable amount of time. They were excellent in terms of the service and it was where it ought to be. AHS is fair and we’re getting the service we’re paying for. However, for years, I have put up with nightmarish loops of incompetence and it’s astounding. It’s an on-demand situation where the loop of connecting with people was insane. There was a breakdown in the loop of communication. I had to repeat my calls and I had to call this plan, but they didn't answer. I had to wait for six weeks without a washing machine. I had to go out because whatever was on their end, they couldn’t address it in a timely fashion.

There was a leak under the kitchen sink and we caught it in time, so we didn’t damage stuff. The contractor came in and it was quick. The dispatch got handled within minutes, then there was an appointment within four days. We waited and they came within the time they said. They called when they said they were gonna come and they were very nice people. They did it with dispatch and they were clean, so I was very impressed and pleased.

American Home Shield is finally living up to what their company has advertised. I always felt badly talking to the people handling the phone calls. They didn’t know and they were part of a company system that was so inadequate. It was so frustrating and it made me so angry. I tried to be loyal and I hung in there, and I’m glad I did because the service that they promise, that their contract is for, is very helpful and very good. When it doesn’t work, it upsets our life when we have to take time off work and they don’t show or call, and it wasn’t just once or twice but to be able to get the service as promised, at the level of excellence that we paid for, is so helpful.

I had an issue with my two water heaters so I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. Their online site is very user-friendly. So far, I’ve filed three times and up until now, their process has been very smooth. Some contractors that AHS sent out were good, some were not good. Last week, somebody came out, checked my water heaters and ordered some parts which was needed. One of the water heater has been fixed so I’m getting hot water while the other water heater is still not working. I received the parts four days ago and then I called AHS and they said they will talk to that particular contractor and that they will call me. But the contractor hasn't called me yet and I'm still waiting. Nevertheless, the whole experience has been good. Their response has been fast and the system has been good. I get a text right away. I’d highly recommend American Home Shield.

Every time I tried to turn on our air conditioner, only the fan would come on. The unit wouldn't cool and wouldn't do anything. So I had to call American Home Shield. Their reps were professional and courteous. Then, the company they assigned to me was very prompt with coming out and doing what they needed to do. The contractor came out a day after I submitted the claim and when he came in, he presented himself and showed me his ID because I am not a person to let anybody in.

The guy did his job and he didn’t leave a bunch of junk around. He was also very pleasant, professional and courteous the whole time. That company was a really good company for AHS to work with. Having this American Home Shield warranty is very valuable to me. I live by myself and I can't always call a handyman. I also don’t trust everybody coming to the house. Underneath our sink, there was leaking underneath the garbage disposal. I filed a claim online and the process was really easy. I did that at night and the contractor called in the morning. He was excellent. He explained to me what was going on, why it happened and that we needed a new garbage disposal. Then he, very timely, went and got the part that was needed, like the whole garbage disposal, and came back. He told us when he was coming back with the parts. In that way, we could watch out for him again. The garbage disposal is working great.

Then we had another claim after the garbage disposal. Something happened to the coil in our oven. So, we did the same thing, filed online through American Home Shield. The contractor was an appliance company nearby and their latest appointment was three weeks away. I told them if they could call me with another time. They called and they said they could come the next day and gave me the time. They arrived on time and that was great. They looked at the problem and said that the coil needed to be replaced and they may order the part, but then I never heard from them again, to follow-up with whether or not they had gotten the part, or when they thought they would get the part.

So, I eventually had to call them a week later after the event, since the delay. They told me that they still haven’t gotten the part which is okay. They were to schedule a time that potentially they would get the part, and they were coming to service it, but we still haven’t heard anything. It has just been a lack of communication, which is kind of frustrating. However, we’re very very thankful to have this home warranty.

We purchased this home warranty two years ago mainly to cover our HVAC and tankless water heater. On Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 4:30, our HVAC compressor went out... the temperature in Henderson NV was 114. We called our own service guy who was here within minutes, because we could not wait for 24-72 hours for one of their service people. We needed a new compressor, fan, 7lbs of Freon.

Our A/C was back up and running by noon on July 27, 2018. Even with that, it took 12 hours for the outer inside walls in our home to be the same temp as the air. The total cost was $2,295.00. Because we couldn't wait 24-72 hours for one of their service techs, then another two to three plus days to be repaired, AMERICAN HOME SHIELD will not cover or even partially refund our out of pocket expense. I have canceled the contract, so no, I will not recommend AHS to anyone, especially those who live where it’s hot!

The repair company came out the 25th and said the compressor would need to be replaced, and it would take 5-7 business days for the part to come in. Fine, that's understandable. She calls the company back 7 business days later since she hadn't heard anything yet, and it turns out AHS took their sweet time and didn't even order the part for a full 5 days after the problem was diagnosed in the first place. So it's been a total of 11 days without AC, it'll likely be more than two full weeks before this is resolved due to their complete lack of competence. Stay away and don't give your money to these people!

He was professional, well-groomed, knew his business and took care of it, plus he identified himself and had a uniform. He worked on the unit and then he had to come back because as he did something and the unit clicked on, the outside condenser unit clicked on and he thought that it was what needed to be done. He didn’t replace the part as he just did some type of cleaning, and the unit failed about 24 hours later. He was back within 24 hours and he replaced the parts.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fine. The AC was not cooling and it was leaking from the forced air unit condenser area into the basement. It is almost not functioning because it is leaking all over the floor and damaging the walls down there. I had difficulty getting someone to come early enough in time. It was almost about three weeks by the time I could get my air conditioner serviced.

However, I have kept that claim open and have another appointment to have them look at that. It looks like they didn’t fix the entire leak problem from that area. I also have condensating water leaking all over the basement 24 hours a day. Initially, I thought it was fine but it is incomplete based on the result. So I’m not really happy about that part. That was hard in 100-degree weather. I have a personal relationship with the people who have serviced my forced air and air conditioning unit for years at other homes and I’m confident they would have come out faster and they would have been professional and correct and had done at least as well as this contractor did. I should have that as an alternative.

My other claim was for the faucets. I couldn’t get any water to come out from a few of them. I submitted the claims online. The tech who came out was fine as well. He was friendly, informative and helpful. He figured out what was wrong. After the repair, the faucets have been fine. AHS has been good to have as a back-up. We have a two-story house and the AC unit inside the house has a pan that collects water in case it leaks. It’s been filling up throughout the day and sometimes, it's filled up early in the morning. But now, it's empty. It depends on whatever time of day it's leaking and it stops the fan from running outside. The issue has been going on for two weeks now. On the first week, we had to wait because the guy didn't come on the day he was supposed to. The next time he came, it fell on a Friday and he said that he would have to wait until the following Monday to get to me because his order was taking too long. So we had to go through a whole weekend.

The contractors know where the water is coming from but they don't know where it's supposed to be going. I don't have wherever the water's supposed to drain outside. But because this is a new model house, maybe it wasn't built. I don't wanna get charged with another fee because the situation hasn't been fixed yet. So I've been staying in touch with the contracted guy but I haven't gotten any results yet. He even had a plumbing guy come out and the plumbing guy tried to see where the hose to the bathroom was going. But he couldn't see where it was going and it isn't a drainage issue either. He even went outside but he also didn't see an issue. He wrote on the paperwork that another AC guy will have to be sent out. But nobody has called. Nobody has said anything about coming back out here to fix the issue with my AC.

This is the second time I've had American Home Shield dealing with an issue in the home. I didn't have any issues with the first one but this one is lingering out. This contractor may not be as highly qualified as they should be in fixing an issue. The guy that AHS first sent out tried his best. But if another contract company came out to see what was going on, they might know something different.

This was better than the last time we used the same contractor because they had problems with scheduling. I tried to call in and change them since we had issues with these guys the first time around. However, we were too far in the process and that wasn’t an option which it should have been because it was very stressful on me.

This time, the contractors came out on three different occasions. The initial step was to do testing on the AC to find out if there was a leak in the Freon. The second time, they knew there was a leak but they couldn’t find it. They did a leak detection and found a blockage so they said they had to order a part and get approval from AHS. They couldn’t do that right away so they came out a third time with the part, fixed the blockage and top off the Freon that had six leaks. Since then, everything has been fine. I’m an insurance agent and AHS is one of my clients. I don’t recommend them first to my high value clients because I know they have stipulations on how much they would cover for individual appliances and a lot of my clients have higher-end appliances. However, for a typical family or a normal residence, I write policies that I recommend them for those types of households.

He said, “That’s gotta be your beginning problem because it shouldn’t flip that many times even if you have a bad breaker.” He seemed to be more knowledgeable than the first guy.

I always call on American Home Shield when I have claims because I want a specific company that I know is good to go out. You can't do that when you file claims online and I’ve had bad experiences with people they’ve sent out in the past. But quite often, there’s a long wait on the line. It's about 10 to 20 minutes but once you’re through, it’s fine. There's typically more than one appointment with the contractor though. They have to go and order the parts and then come back in a week or so. That’s also why they’re a bit slow. Ordering something alone would take a week. That’s a long time when you’ve got no AC. But I’ve had American Home Shield for about five years and they’ve definitely gotten better in the last year or so.

My experience submitting my claim with American Home Shield online went well but there was a concern in terms of what the potential cost could be but it worked out well. There was a delay on getting the parts ordered and received for the icemaker and refrigerator, but with the service, it has been good. For some reason, the coolant on a cold system had escaped, so they had to load in the coolant and they put a sealer in to keep it from escaping. The technician that Setpoint Mechanical sent out was great. He explained to me what he diagnosed in terms of the issue and what was the correction above and beyond adding new coolant. So far, American Home Shield is working as advertised and promoted.

We submit claims online, which is easier, and then American Home Shield sends the email. I had Family Heating and Air come out twice. But when they came out the first time, they didn’t go over the air conditioning. The tech just talked through the whole thing. He opened up some dampers and closed the wrong one, and the AC still wasn’t cooling off properly. So I called them again and told them to send a more experienced guy. But the second guy was not as experienced as the other one and he still didn’t do what he had to do.

I had to call Horizon which is another company outside of American Home Shield. And Horizon came out to get the job done. I called American Home Shield to see if I could get my money back but every time I tried to call them, they put me on hold and I could not get through. I've been with American Home Shield for at least a year and my transactions with them have been amazing. This one instance hasn't been the greatest but I still wanna use American Home Shield.

The fan on my AC stopped working and it was in the middle of a heat wave. It was about 90 degrees every day. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and their representative was great. I called the contractor to try to get them to do it sooner though but the soonest that they can come out is four days. I actually had to stay at my mother’s house because I have a seven-year-old and I have three dogs and we couldn’t stay in our house that was 90 degrees. AHS only has a couple of people in my area apparently and AHS tried reaching out to the company for me to try to get them to come sooner but they said their hands were tied.

My AC broke on a Tuesday and the contractor was scheduled to come out that Saturday but they were able to come out Friday because I kept calling them. They were nice and they tried to be accommodating as they could with having so many customers. They took the AC to my driveway and they fixed it and I didn’t even have to be there. Now, my AC is working better. I have a two-story townhome and my AC keeps it pretty cool. I wouldn’t choose to go through AHS again though because of their lack of contractors and they don’t really do bigger companies. They get small mom and pop companies and it’s literally the husband and wife who own it. So, the husband is the only one able to come out. If I was to renew, I would choose a different company and I would do more research before I get another home warranty.

They could not get any contractor to come out for repairs so they told us to hire our own contractor and get reimbursement later. We send receipt for reimbursement and now they are denying the claim saying, "You hired a 3rd party contractor and didn't get authorization." It's been over a month and we have been calling and requesting to get our reimbursement for so long they are still denying it. Very bad customer service and frustrated with overall service.

My wife and I first had AHS coverage as we purchased homes in the past paid for by the original owner for a year. We started extending the coverage since it was so convenient and made sense financially. We continue to keep it every year on our current home; it helped significantly with our old HVAC system (now replaced as of JAN 2018), appliances such as our stove and washing machine (AHS replaced our washer with a new one THANK YOU VERY MUCH). Always prompt service; sometimes it takes a day or two but it is understandable given the time of year (we live in a resort type area). I would recommend this for anyone interested in relatively inexpensive peace of mind "insurance" and even as a gift to friends or family.

We purchased a home warranty plan with AHS in May 2018. We had our credit cards stolen in May 2018. The company DID NOT communicate with us about payments not going through. We contacted them on June 5, 2018 and gave them our new credit card information and told them to take the payments out that were owed to them. They did not. We even went online and updated the online site with our bank account number and routing number... They did not take out any payments!

Here is now July 28, 2018 we called AHS to have an appliance repaired. They did not mention to us that we did not have a contract! They charged us a $75.00 service fee. The service provider called the company and that is when we found out that we did not have an active policy! We've been on the phone with them since July 28, 2018. We've asked to speak to a supervisor for 5 days in a row. Gave them updated credit card information and once again no payment was taken out. I called them on July 30th, I've been calling them every day with no resolve in us making our payments.

So on July 30th I called once again asked to speak to a supervisor and did not get a supervisor. Asked why my payment wasn't taken out? Once again nothing resolved! So July 31, 2018 I called and asked that we pay the 3 months that we owe and would it be back dated to May 31, 2018 when we first purchased the policy. I was told yes it would. So the next day I called to see if our warranty went into effect. It had but it was not back dated as I was told it would be! Once again asked to speak to a supervisor. I got a female by the name of Olgatree (I know that is not her name) who I spoke to. She told me I wasn't allowed to speak to a supervisor and that the previous person I spoke to lied to me about back dating the policy!

Well we cancelled our policy actually the day before yesterday August 1, 2018. Olgatree was rude, obnoxious and told me that our policy was cancelled. She stated to me that no payment was taken out. But lo and behold yes payment was taken out! So once again we called and told me them to refund our money! Lo and behold I they took out another 3 months worth of payments!! So over 300.00!! So I called them demanding a refund and they told me they have no proof of payment being taken out! I told them they were flat out lying because I have the proof from my bank! Then they changed their story. But once again the policy was not cancelled! They have had our phone numbers, our mailing address, our email address and from May 31st to today they could NOT have bothered to contact us and let us know that payment was not going through but they illegally charged us a 75.00 service fee for a policy we don't have?

This company is a rip off... scam, fraud the whole nine yards! I've already reported them to the Federal Trade Commission, my Attorney General's office and now to the Tennessee where their home office is at Attorney General!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL!! Their business practices are unethical heck their business is a scam! They need to be shut down! I have the proof they took out 6 months of payments AFTER WE CANCELLED THEM! They argued with me about they do not show on their system payments were taken out until I told them I have proof and then they changed their story! They state they are only showing one payment but I have 2 payments!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Heck their employee's have no idea how to do their job at all! This is the worst home warranty company ever!

AHS sent out an AC repair company that only took pictures of my system and said the evaporator coil needed to be replaced, which it did. AHS called and said it would cost me $1350 to be paid to the repair company for the services to bring my system up to code. I questioned the $1350 as my home is only 8 years old and was built properly. The repair company said I needed a water sensor, which I do have, a correct size drip pan, which I do have, separate primary and secondary drain lines, which I do have, correct hanging straps, which they are, list goes on.

I called AHS and told them what was going on, they said, "No worries. You can go with a Cash in Lieu option," stating that they would cover the cost of the coil and labor up to a certain amount. I brought in a reputable repair company on, my dime, to make the repairs to my AC system. Keep in mind the original company AHS sent out had my credit card information and charged me $1350 for work they did not do... now they changed systems and are not able to process a refund so I am waiting on a check to be cut from the original company.

This morning I received a call from AHS's Cash in Lieu department stating that they will cover $260, yes only $260. The representative stated that is what they pay for labor and the cost of an evaporator coil wholesale. So now the original company AHS sent has my $1350, the reputable company was paid $2399.99, and AHS is covering $260. I was then told by the representative that I could have saved $750 by going with the original repair company, I really hope they are recording their conversations. So, in real terms, it would have been cheaper for me to be scammed into changing out the correct components in my system rather than pay a reputable service provider.

When AHS's representatives are stating that it sounds like it would be easier to take the cash in lieu option rather than continue on with the original service provider you would take their advice and go with it, anyone would. I was cheated. I have paid AHS monthly for several years and the slap in the face I received from them as a loyal customer is shameful. I unfortunately have to pay them more than I will be receiving to continue out the contract. Once the contract is over I will never do business with them again, everyone be warned. I was warned several years ago but didn't heed it, also as I've talked to peers they have shared their experiences with AHS and couldn't believe I was with them, I now know what they were talking about.

Your technician, David, from Express Appliance, came out to my house two weeks ago to install a new ice maker. After seeing the ice maker this morning, he admittedly said he installed it incorrectly. This caused a 6 inch ice block to fill up the entire icemaker. He of course was requested to come back to repair the icemaker yesterday. He came back yesterday morning & told me that our freezer would take 6 hours to defrost the ice (and ice block was formed in the icemaker due to faulty installation) and it couldn't be done any quicker than that. I insisted that he stay and I would assist him to defrost the ice with two hair dryers. He insisted that it would take too long. He then left ME defrost the freezer on my own because I believe he didn't have the patience to do it himself. When left to do this myself, I did it in a HALF AN HOUR.

The ice tray is now clear of ice and completely defrosted. When I called Express Appliance to request the technician to come back that day, they told me it was not possible and they were booked. They said they could send someone out the following day but that was not convenient, as I work full-time. When I requested to speak to the manager, they insisted she was busy and would call me back. The last three contractors sent from AHS have been horrible in all aspects of service and professionalism. The first one disarmed a 12-year old dishwasher to finally tell me that we violated the warranty for not taking care of its maintenance. Hello, if it 12-year old don't you think I have taken good care of it? They ended up repairing the dishwasher. I believe they spent more money on the repair than what it costs. The second a refrigerator/freezer. The cooling system got broken. It took three days after requesting service for the contractor to come. Of course, we have to dump most of the food, it got spoiled. He put coolant into the system, we loaded the fridge with food, but after three days the same problem came back. A new refrigerator was ordered. It took two weeks for us to get a new fridge, two full loads of food lost, and there was no compensation for that. I was about to cancel my membership but wanted to give AHS another opportunity.

The last one was the AC. It stopped working. We found out the cause was a broken cable, that we fixed temporarily. It took the contractor four days to come after the order was placed. He came, fixed the cables, and did other things indicating the wiring did not comply with the city code. Well, I checked it was working, went back to work and when I came back at night the temperature was 82 instead of 75. Next morning I found out the outside unit was not working. Call contractor, no answer, call AHS and said I have to wait until Monday and refused to authorize me to find another company when the temperature has been around 115 degrees with the heat index. My wife, myself, and the pets have to move out. On Monday, AHS admitted it was an emergency. Here I am four days later and the AC has not been fixed. A company I contacted is coming today to fix it and I am out of AHS. IT HAS BECOME A NIGHTMARE.

We "had" American Home Shield when we purchased a house in TX (2015) that was paid for by the seller. We had two service calls the first year (replacing a hot water heater thermostat & putting more Freon in A/C - that cost us over $200) which turned out okay. In year two we stayed with the service at around $50/month and during that year the ac didn't cool at beginning of summer so we called again. The tech that came out told us he "couldn't" find the leak but was going to replace the unit in the attic. I asked why they didn't just replace out the whole unit since AHS would only pay $20/lb for R22 freon ($125/lb by that company) and he told me something very interesting.

It seems the "contracted" companies that AHS uses can only turn in receipts for ~$100-125 per customer or they get dropped to the bottom of the referral list - my understanding from this tech was that ~90% of that companies business came from AHS or other home insurance companies. Bottom line for this call, AHS was going to allow $995 against a $5000+ bill to replace a $350 coil. I'm not kidding, the estimate from the ac company was over $5,000.00 of which we had to pay over $4,000 and the estimate specifically stated there would be NO warranty for anything except the inside (attic) unit, would NOT guarantee the work would fix any previous issues/problems and specifically excluded any freon replacement regardless of where it leaked from.

We opted for the payout to come to us - yes they will do this, but not until you get through several deeper levels of red tape and several hours (literally ~3hrs) on the phone. We bought a brand new Trane system 5 ton unit w/ gas heater pack for just under $9000 (with new ducting and smart thermostat) that uses the "new" ($10-20/lb) freon. We then waited for 30 days after we deposited the check from AHS and then cancelled the policy - plan on another 60-90 minutes on the phone to cancel. To add insult to injury, they charge you another full months premium as an administrative "fee" to cancel. To all of the realtors out there making your commission off selling these policies, you should really look at this post and feel ashamed getting your clients into these worthless policies. Don't believe me, leave me a reply and I'll call you and show you all of the paperwork, phone logs etc backing this up.

I had to call since they were supposed to call me and schedule, but never did and they couldn't come out until Friday (basically 3 days from now). The company we were referred to was very rude and has a whole 2 stars online. It was frustrating because this was kind of an urgent matter and we didn't want to live in an outhouse for 3 days... It is also scary making sure all the sewage stayed in the tub. So we called back and they finally dispatched someone to come out the next day... too long. Finally we got someone to come out today after calling multiple TIMES! The person came so late and all they could do was tell us they couldn't fix the issue, but they would let our home warranty know and AHS would be giving us a call.

AHS never called us to tell us THEY WON'T COVER IT NOR WAS ANYONE ELSE WAS COMING TO FIX THE ISSUE. So now I missed an entire day of work playing tag with them and they weren't even going to tell me another plumber wasn't coming as we were told. Now after chasing them all day it is AFTER HOURS and more expensive, we got a plumber down here to fix the issue. Thanks for nothing AHS! I hope you enjoy the $75 service fee as no service was provided... It would have been cheaper just to get the plumber out here ourselves. AHS is a scam. Don't be stupid and buy into their "coverage." I’d recommend it to other people that had moved into the neighborhood. It’s gonna save you. They sent Plumbing with Landmark for the upstairs guest bathroom toilet which was leaking. The toilet was one of those newer types, so I tried adjusting it, turning it one way, leaving it a day, turning it another way, leaving it a day, but it still kept running every few minutes, so I didn’t know what was going on. The technician came over and he took the guts out and looked at it and replaced the float. Then he left and I called them and I said it was still making that noise. He came back a little bit later and found that on one of the seals, there was a little divet that was letting the water drain ever so slowly. So he replaced that and now, there’s no problem.

They had to remove the old one and they had to put in a new one. They also had to change some type of piping on it and after they did the piping, they were also gonna certify it because you gotta get it certified for the fire marshal. I approved that work to get done and once that work was done, my tenant was still not getting hot water.

I paid for a plumber to come out and found out what was going on with the hot water. He told me that it was something electrical and by being electrical, now it was out of pocket with them. I called American Home Shield back and told them that the company that installed my hot water heater was the company that they suggested and I paid for them to do the work but I still don’t have hot water. I also explained to them that if I needed an electrician and the hot water heater wasn’t getting any electricity to us then that means we didn’t need to change the hot water heater out. I had the electrician fix the problem and all in all, it was just an electrical problem. Since the repair, the hot water heater started working.

The air conditioner started sputtering and there was obviously something wrong with it so we called American Home Shield. They sent Abbott and I was very pleased with the Abbott people. They determined that the unit was damaged so they tried to look around what might have damaged it. Since we had a roof installed, they determined it must have been down the roof. There was no proof but since they determined it was damaged, American Home Shield said that they wouldn’t be covering it because they only cover regular wear and tear. We called the roofer and he said it couldn’t have been him. He called McDonald, another AC company, who said that the unit wasn’t damaged and it was just old. We just need to add some freon and that will be done.

The Abbott people also said it needed freon but they refused to put it saying the freon would kill the unit permanently. We called American Home Shield back and told them that Abbott said it was damaged and couldn’t be fixed. We also had McDonald who said it could be fixed. AHS said okay and since McDonald isn’t on their list, AHS called another company that said it was damaged which washed their hands from it. We went to our home insurance, Liberty Mutual, who called the Sunrise people. Sunrise said that it was damaged and they should be able to fix it, put some freon and that should take care of it. We told them to go ahead and do it since we needed the air badly. Sunrise fixed the damaged coils and added the freon and that totally fried it. So, we were in a much worse situation from having some air to no air at all. The whole thing ended up being a whole drama and we’re still without our AC unit.

Since then, we’ve been trying to get contractors. American Home Shield was clear that they don’t fix damaged and they would have fixed it if it had been normal wear and tear. We’ve used them in the past for other things that we’ve had and they came through very well. It just so happened that the thing with the damaged and not damaged and who was taking responsibility for that. It was frustrating to find out that they don’t cover it if it was damaged. My first reaction was, “Why are we paying insurance?” I had friends telling me to cancel right now but it was clear in the policy and that we didn’t read the small print was more our fault than theirs.

That time, I really had a hard time because they said nobody responded when they posted my claim so they told me to find my own person. However, the guy who came lied to me all along. He was supposed to call AHS to get the estimate and I was supposed to pay it and then get reimbursed. He never got a hold of AHS. The day he was here, he said he was on hold for 45 minutes and that he’d try again later. I paid him $200 to recharge the Freon. He said there was a leak but there wasn’t because we haven't had any problems since.

When I filed a claim recently for the leaking air conditioner, another company responded so quickly. The contractor came in the afternoon of the same day. He was very friendly and explained what he was doing. He got everything taken care of and there has been no problem at all since. I appreciate the change in the policy of AHS from a year ago and I like the way where I just call AHS and then the contractor does everything for you. That’s very helpful. The contractors seem to be much more responsive as well and I’m very happy with the way things are now.

My dryer stopped going around and I filed a claim over the phone. The contractor that American Home Shield sent out has been here before. The contractor's demeanor was fine and they did exactly what they said they were gonna do. They had to order a part so it was on the second visit, which was five days from the first visit, that they were able to fix my dryer. American Home Shield has always done what they’ve always said they would do. I recommend them but only locally because that’s where I'm at. Though I've only had experience with plumbing and appliances, AHS has done fine.

Our experience with American Home Shield has been great. Although I’ve had a couple of problems with the vendors that they've sent out, those were resolved really quickly. Once, I had a company come to fix my A/C unit that didn’t have a ladder. It was bizarre to me. I called American Home Shield back and as I was waiting to schedule a visit, they already sent another vendor to deal with it. So they're really quick in dealing with issues like that.

I’d like to be able to give more information about my issue when I do the service call though. Right now I have a transformer and a light fixture set claim, and I was able to get the serial number but there was no way for me to translate that to the guy who came out. So he came out, took a picture of it and has now ordered the part. But I knew what needed to be changed because my building maintenance guy had looked at the problem. I could have informed the technician beforehand instead of him having to go back out and get one. It's a super minor thing but it would save everybody's time.

We had American Home Shield when we first bought the house and kept it for a couple of years. I was really ecstatic that we could add it back. We’ve lived here for 15 years and we haven’t added it for about 12 years. When we saw that it was available to add back in, we did and it turned out to be absolutely fabulous. When the pool sweeper wouldn’t sweep the pool, we were getting lots of debris and we couldn’t get the pool clean. We didn’t know what was going on with it. It would run, but it wouldn’t move, so we called American Home Shield, although all the communication was online and we got emails.

The contractor who came out from Watertight Pool & Spa was great. When he got here, he had everything to fix the problem and the process was really quick and efficient. It worried me because I was afraid we were gonna have to have whole new systems, but it ended up being some valve on the pool sweeper had broken. It was some old part and all he did was replace the valve.

The heater also went out in the winter and then it got a 110 here and the air conditioning went out. Everything was working on the air conditioner except the switch, so the system wouldn’t ever kick on. All the contractor had to do was replace the switch. It’s been one thing after another. I don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t had AHS. In a way, I’m thrilled we have it because I’d rather pay a hundred dollars that could have been thousands to repair it. They really know what they are doing. Everybody came out and fixed the issues, so the experience has been great. I love AHS and we have already recommended them to multiple people. We tell everybody that when they buy a house, tell the seller that they want them to put at least a one-year warranty on the home and do it with AHS.

We were trying to get an air conditioner fixed back in May. The American Home Shield contractor came out and just added Freon to it which we paid for. Five weeks later, it was not cooling again so we called the same contractor. They came out and wanted to add some Freon again. They came so many times and how these men worked was repetitive. It was like they kept putting a band-aid on it and they wouldn't fix the problem. Finally, they said that they got to do a leak test. It was almost as though they were trying to just keep charging me. I'm not an air conditioner repair guy but if it was low on Freon five weeks later, I could see it was leaking. They came and said they were gonna do the leak test or change the evaporator coil but they had to submit a request to AHS to get this done. This was on a Wednesday and there was no urgency involved at all.

When the technician came on the third try, he said that he was the one to fix these kinds of problems. However, he dropped the ball and never even filled out the paperwork. I called Fitz on Friday afternoon to see if the request had been approved and the guy said he had misplaced the paperwork. There was no follow through with the technician. We're in Louisiana and it's not nice and cool down here. I called the technician back on a Monday and he said that he had just found the paperwork. At that time, my air conditioner was still not working.

A few days went by and I had to call again. I was told that they submitted the paperwork but they didn't call me to let me know. I was waiting for AHS to call me back and somebody finally called me the following Saturday. It was like everybody dragged their feet on it. My wife wasn't too happy with the service that was provided. The technician fixed other things like the disposal, our washer and dryer and it was fine. But somehow, on this air conditioner, they didn't want to get in the attic and fix it. We were without air conditioning for like five weeks total.

When the technician finally said they had permission to do the leak test which I thought was really ridiculous, they said they would be there the following Monday between 8:00 and 8:30. 10:00 came and no one was at the house yet. I understand if it was late in the day and they got behind on appointments but I was the first in line that day. I called them at 10:00 and asked them where they were. They said that they were just loading up the truck. I told them not to come anymore. I didn't wanna deal with them. AHS sent a guy from Bright Construction and he was great. He showed up the next morning. He went upstairs, walked into the attic and looked at the unit. He knew the unit had never been taken apart to even know if there was a need for a leak test. He changed up the evaporator coil and he was done in an hour.

I highly recommended American Home Shield in the past but probably not so much after this latest incident. They need to give the contractors a little more freedom to go ahead and fix the issue as opposed to have to wait and call in for approval. It just drags out and that's another day that people have to take off work. If I was paying a service fee, it shouldn't have taken that long like what the second guy did.

Our washing machine had a leak in the basin that was then leaking on to the transmission, so that was then leaking oil. I went to American Home Shield's mobile site to submit the claim and it was very easy. They sent a contractor that we've had before and they did great. The guy said that he was worried that he won't be able to find the transmission but he'd go and look for it. He found it, came back and replaced the transmission, but the washer was still leaking. He then realized that the basin was leaking and he had never seen a basin like that leaked before, so he replaced it which he had to get the replacement part from American Home Shield.

In addition, he came in on a day when he was supposed to be beginning a vacation and got that replaced for us. He accidentally locked the door sensor ajar. He didn’t know that it was closed so it would still open and stop. He had to get someone else to come out and fix that because we couldn’t get ahold of the guy since he was on vacation. It was an easy fix. The repair took about three weeks and the washer has been great since the repairs. A lot of people say, “Watch out with the warranties because you don’t know who you’re gonna end up with,” but we’ve always had great service from AHS. I told someone who was working with the same realtor we had when we purchased the house that the home warranty is an option and they should go with it.

VERY VERY VERY poor customer service, they lie with no problem. They know the call is recorded and still lie, you can't get a supervisor or anyone higher than a customer service rep. They put you on hold and hang up on you and never offer a callback. They try to find any reason not to cover your request for repair. I had an emergency A/C outage in 103 temp weather with an elderly lady in my home and they told me on a Friday night they didn't cover my A/C but still wanted me to pay $70 to have someone come out for service. Even with the FACT they didn't cover the item. Today is Aug 1st this has been since July 20th and I still can't get anyone on the phone with AHS to answer or reply to my request. I will be contacting the BBB!

Updated on 08/16/2018: After weeks of calling and being on hold and explaining the issue with my A/C, I have yet to have restitution from AHS. On Aug 8th 2018 a social media rep for AHS requested a copy of my $11,757 invoice for a replacement A/C unit that I was forced to pay out of pocket due to their customer service person telling me on July 20, 2018 at 6:30 pm a Friday my A/C was not covered.

In a panic I had no time to go back and forth with this C/S person I needed air, it was over 113* in my home. Stacy ** of AHS offered me $5,000 but welcomed me to contact an attorney, but she would see if she could get more and contact me by Fri (8/10/18). Didn't happen. As of 8/15/18 I have sat on hold for 2 hrs to hear from Chastie in the service dept, that she needed a copy of my invoice but can only pay what the coverage would have paid and can't tell me that amount until she go over the invoice. Give her 30 min. @2:57 pm she would call me back, still no call.

Today 8/16/18 called Stacy ** office. Spoke with Drinkerd. Said she was out of the office, asked for a supervisor. He stated they have no supervisor. Again he welcomed me to contact an attorney and social media (haha), the customer service for this company is a joke and I guess they have great job security because they don't care what they say. The fact they announce on every call you may be recorded for quality purpose is a joke. Oh and I am still waiting for the pulled call from the CS rep telling me my A/C was not covered on 7/20/18 and the CS rep telling me again on Aug 1st that my A/C was not covered. Supervisor Toni has not contacted me nor has CS rep Haley from Aug 8th.

If you are reading this post you can't reply but, you can post on ALL social media. AHS has had my business for 13 yrs and I have never had to go thru the hoops and stress like this. I have had bad service with them and just dealt with it but I don't have $11,757 additional to just blow off because AHS hired a person that did not give good basic customer service. With at least 12 complaints posted the same week if not day as my issue you can see I am not alone. Keep reading. They only put the 5 stars on their home page. You have to see Consumer Affairs page to get the truth on how poor their service is. MAKE IT RIGHT AHS.

Both owners are Military service members. The Central heating unit is original to the home and is over 20 years old. My original contract and advertised claims stated that AHS will continue to fix the unit until it cannot be fix. A service request was made for the heating unit at the end of winter (lucky for us). This unit is over 20 years old. The subcontractor stated that the system is so old that parts will not be found. I have contacted AHS on 2 occasions to repair this unit in past years. In this case attempts have been made to locate the part and each time the incorrect part was sent to the subcontractor.

I contacted AHS over 7 times for this request, trying to get updates (waiting on the phone 45-over 60 mins). Only to have my time wasted by being told that a AHS rep will have to me call back. After years of paying my contract amount I was told that AHS cannot locate the part and it will only give me $300 for the unit. This is unacceptable. That amount will not even cover the labor cost. As an American Service member I do not feel secure leaving my family and knowing that 1. there is no heat and 2. I don't have a dependable home warranty company. There is no peace of mind when you really do need them.

He was clean and he cleaned everything up that he touched and put on booties when coming in. He repaired the stuff well. There were no extra dings that he left behind. The toilet is better than it was the day it was installed. I also have one of those faucets where the end of the faucet pulls out as the little spray spout and the hose started to get a little bubble on it. He didn't repair that because it hadn't actually failed yet. He couldn't repair it unless it was a failure.

But AHS has improved greatly since a year ago. A year ago it was three-hour hold times and it has been nothing like that since about six months ago. I then found another contractor that completed the repair, and sent an invoice to AHS (dba HSA) for the repair. They then began sending notices in the mail stating that my claim would not be covered due to a "pre-existing condition." My blower motor did NOT break down due to a pre-existing condition. It has worked perfectly for over 5 months since the day we moved in, evidenced by its performance in both heating and cooling up until the day of breakdown. My entire HVAC system has not had any malfunctions whatsoever prior to the motor breakdown on 5/16/18. This was definitively an acute and sudden breakdown that falls under the contractual coverage of my home warranty.

I have repeatedly contacted the company for resolution, and they have continued to refuse to cover my repair claiming that it is excluded due to "pre-existing condition". It CAN'T be a pre-existing condition because it worked perfectly until it broke. This company is acting fraudulently and should not be "backed" or "certified" by your organization.

My swimming pool had an issue and I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. Navigating their website was very simple but I didn’t like that if I had multiple issues with my pool, it was very difficult to break these down. The website just allowed me to either put pool pump or pool filter in, and it didn't give me a lot of options to give a detailed report on what was happening. Prior to my swimming pool claim, I had a claim for my refrigerator which had an issue, but it took multiple call-outs and five months to fix it. The contractor had to get permission from AHS to order a part and that took four days. Then they ordered the part, which took a week. Then they put the part in, but that didn’t correct the problem, so they had to do it again and again, and so our ref was out for so long and we couldn't use it. It seemed like the contractor was afraid to ask AHS for permission to order more than one part at a time.

Having the warranty is valuable, so I've recommended AHS to family and friends. In fact, I recommended them to my sister who's a school teacher. But AHS is not all that it's cranked up to be. They don’t come out to fix things immediately. It takes time and you're at their mercy. Also, I get nervous about making a claim with them because then their rate will go up so much. I've made a couple of claims and they raised the rate from $68 to $115 a month, which is incredible, so I'm waiting for the most important thing that I can have a claim for again.

Also, he has been working all day, this is a three-hour drive and he was not going to be able to give me results. It was good customer service though. He was ready to come out. He called me and let me know he was running and told me what problems he was encountering. There was constant communication and he kept me posted throughout the day. I told him to come out when he could.

Now, the time was from 2:00 to 6:00 but I know things happen and jobs take longer than expected. He then told me Saturday morning and I’m counting on him to come because I can’t keep waiting and waiting. My unit is still not working properly and it has not been a pleasant experience. Total Air Care can’t do anything and American Home Shield blames Total Air Care. I was told that it’s a piece together type of situation until there’s absolutely nothing else that can be done. I wish I had a better experience but I’ve been going through this since May. Nevertheless, the people that I have spoken with have been very professional and sensitive to my needs. Our fridge wasn’t dispensing ice and it didn’t get cold. I called American Home Shield to submit my claim and it was easy. The next day the guy contacted me. It took four days to get a person out here and I wish it would have been a little quicker. The contractor who came out and did the work was great and really knowledgeable. He knew the refrigerator and the issue with it. My experience was simple and straightforward. I’ve had AHS for a long time, then I let it run out and I decided I’d better pick them up again. I liked them before and had the same experience.

When I went online to pick a home warranty, my son-in-law had used American Home Shield and was pleased with them, so I figured that if it was good for him, it would be good for me as well. We had just moved into the house and the upstairs air conditioning unit was not putting out enough cold air. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and my experience with everybody I've dealt with has been great. The contractor knew what he was talking about and he pointed out a couple of things and warned me about some other things to be aware of.

At the end of the day, he said that the temperature difference was fine. It is working okay now, although it hasn’t been as hot it was. So far, everything I've experienced has been great. I get the emails as far as the IDs and notifications, although I hope I don’t have to use them again. However, I'm not afraid that if I have to use them, AHS will do a good job of getting the right people. They were prompt in their response and communicated well in the limited dealing I've had with them. It was a positive experience.

In lieu of fixing the dishwasher, I had to buy a new one but when I called AHS to ask about that, the person that I talked to wasn’t very courteous. I asked her to have a manager call me and she said that they would call me within 48 hours. It's two weeks later and I still haven’t received a call.

Having an AHS warranty has been very valuable because I've used it several times since I took possession of the house

I have been with American Home Shield since I bought the house in February 2016 and the interactions with them have been great. My AC went out and I called it in by Saturday or Sunday. The guy from A-US came out on Monday, checked it out, did the repair, and told me to turn the AC on. It was cold, so I was happy and everything since then has been great. Before that, I had some issues with the microwave and the refrigerator and American Home Shield has been there. The technicians came out and said that they needed a part for the refrigerator. I asked how long that was gonna take and they said that it may be a couple of days or a week. They got the part and put it in, but it was still not working. I asked what we were to do next and the tech said that they had to order a part.

A couple of days later, he put the part on and the refrigerator was not working. I asked what we were to do then and he said that they gotta replace it. It took them a minute to understand the issues with it, but the service and the support from American Home Shield have been there. I’ve been patient along the way because it's the process. The technicians have to do their due diligence before they can move forward.

The reviews for American Home Shield were fairly positive. We have been with them since July and I've submitted my claims online. It has been really easy and usually, they'll send me a text and an email letting me know that my service request has been received. One of their contractors will be in touch with us and then schedule an appointment from there.

Stoa was great. They showed up on time and they resolved the problem with our dumpsters and bathroom leak. A phantom flush occurred in one of our other toilets when the plumber was here and he offered to try if he could figure out what the issue was. That issue isn't resolved yet but that isn't also in the scope of their work. They were very helpful and the plumber was good.

We also had to put in a service request for our HVAC unit. And for that one, the first time it wasn't resolved. Still, it was very easy for me to request and have them come back out and fix it. When I log in to my account, I can do all the service request and then it will show past service requests. Then I can go and be like, "The problem still exists. We need someone to come back out." And then when they text me and let me know that the contractor who's going to be fixing it has been contacted, they provide me with a telephone number. So if the contractor doesn't reach out to me within 24 hours, I can call them myself. We've had a pretty good experience with American Home Shield so far.

When we were in Texas, my daughter went to check my house and she told me that the temperature was 90 degrees. She then opened the doors so it wouldn't get too hot being locked up. When I got home, I went around and checked. The fan wasn't running so I thought the AC's capacitor was out and so was the fan. I then called AHS.

The first people they assigned to me said it would be two weeks before they could get here. I just brought my wife home so I couldn’t handle that. I called AHS back and they were Johnny-on-the-spot. They had me list two other contractors and told me to call them. They also said that I could always cancel the other appointment. I would have to see if I could get them here quicker. The contractor over at the Panama City Beach was here the next afternoon and he replaced the fan and the capacitor as they were both bad. I was with him the whole time and I didn't think he checked the pressure. It was after he left when it started warming back up outside, and the AC wouldn't produce what we thought it had. And then, it quit again.

I called and they were here the next morning. What happened was, the drain pipe had stuffed up. There was a switch in there that if it gets too much water and it’s not disposing that, it shuts the unit down to protect it. They replaced that, explained to me what exactly was happening, and they even gave suggestions on how to keep it from happening in the future. They told me that every time I change the air filter, I should pour a couple of white vinegar in the drain line. That would keep that stuff from building up. Since the repair, everything has been very good. I'd tell friends to jump on AHS. It's worth it.

The shower was leaking. I called American Home Shield and Air Pro Master came out and they fixed it, but there was something else also that they fixed at that point. When they fixed it, there was still something else that was leaking, so they had to come back and fix something else that was also leaking. Two different things were causing the leak and they fixed them both. Air Pro Master is great and I like them. The people American Home Shield uses are always very nice. If they charge too much, they have too much of a deductible. They don’t cover enough things, but they use a great staff. I call them every time and then they schedule. Air Pro Master calls me and they schedule the repair with my tenant and go out and do the repairs. My tenants are also very happy with Air Pro Master.

The American Home Shield reps are always nice to me. Sometimes, they do it with a recording and not a live person. They just do the recording and they ask me what’s wrong, and I will say "air conditioner" or "faucet broke in master bath". Sometimes, it’s a live person. I’m very happy when they come out and do stuff and they come out promptly. The quality of work that they've done has been perfect so far and everything's going great. I also have my kids use American Home Shield.

The tank of my toilet system broke and at that time, it didn’t occur to me that it had coverage with American Home Shield, so I got the unit scheduled for service. Eventually, before the company came out to do the service, I found out we that have coverage. I called in and AHS said that if it was something that was urgent, we might as well do it ourselves, but if it was not, they were gonna send somebody in to do the assessment. The guy who came out looked at the situation and said that from the way things were looking, something was put in too tight on the WC and cracked it.

From what he could see and based on his experience, AHS was not gonna cover that. However, he could call it in and provide the information that he had, and then we would wait for the whole process. That was gonna take too long. I had the new unit already and he would rather go ahead with the installation and then I pay for the service. He explained the situation as clear as I could understand. It was already about two weeks broken, so I didn’t want to wait any much longer than that.

I recently had an electrical claim with the outside outlet not working and the breaker wasn’t tripping correctly. It was easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield online. I went to their webpage, logged in and submitted the claim. I did it twice and the first time took an hour. The second time I did it, they needed three hours for the other group to call me to set up an appointment. The contractors came out the day after that for both times. American Home Shield sent out fantastic people who knocked it out and explained everything. The contractor stacked up his whole day with stuff and he still took plenty of time to explain things. When he left, I realized the refrigerator was out. So, I called and he immediately came back. He figured out what the real problem was immediately when he came back.

Everything’s perfect now and I’ve been using the outlet. The quality of the contractors who have gotten both times are the contractors on my call. I wanna try getting them to do some additional work but not under the warranty. And it helps me find new contractors for other stuff that’s not under the warranty. AHS does a great job. You send the claim in, the contractors come out and they take care of it. It’s quality work and you don’t have to worry about it again.

The service fee, for each time someone comes out through AHS, even for something minor costs $75. Then when the guy comes out I had to pay $20 more because there was some extra things that he was doing that he said was not covered so the total of everything was about $100. I don’t know much about what's covered and what isn’t covered but I pay $75 for service fee, which I thought should cover everything.

I had some guy come out to do my garage which I also paid $75 and then I had to pay an extra $60 because I purchased a remote, which I know is not something that AHS covers. Then he also did something to my door and then I told him, “Whoa, I paid the $75 already. So why are you charging me?” He said, “Well, this is not covered as well.” They need to be more specific on what the fee was about. It was just a simple rekey. However, the contractor did a really good job with the garage. I’m happy about the service.

We had an electrical problem with the garage opener right after the storm and the garage wouldn’t open at all. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield through the internet. Though the website isn't intuitive, it's pretty easy to navigate. The problem with the garage opener happened on Friday morning, but they didn’t contact me until Monday because they don’t work on the weekends. My car was stuck inside the garage. I called the insurance company and I was trying to get someone to get there on the weekends, but they couldn’t do that. I wished they had a service on the weekends instead of me waiting until Monday.

When the contractor showed up, it took him less than a minute to fix the issue. However, I have an alarm system that was hooked to my garage and it was an outside system where it gave me the capability of closing and opening from my phone via Bluetooth. He switched the wires where he fixed the garage, but he disconnected my wireless device hooked to the garage, so I called the alarm company. They showed up and they said that whoever fixed the garage did everything wrong. He put the wiring in a wrong position. I had to pay extra for the alarm company to come in and look at my issue. I also had an issue with American Home Shield with the air conditioning. It broke down around July on a Friday, but they didn’t send a technician until Monday. As a warranty, AHS has a great customer service, but they need to pick better and more professional technicians.

Submitting an online claim with American Home Shield for our air conditioning at a home down the road was easy. The contractor that came out was A1 Heating and Cooling and they did a good job. Since the repair of the AC, its performance has been good. However, there was a contractor from GSSN Heating and Air Conditioning who tried to come to our house and we were told that the person is a pedophile. GSSN also does a terrible job. AHS should check into people’s backgrounds of those going into people’s homes because that’s not kosher. But other than that, I love AHS and I would not ever have a house and not have a home warranty.

American Home Shield was part of a home purchase and the first time using it was very much a pain for the pool heater. There was a lack of communication and lack of ability to establish any type of understanding of where I was in the process or what was gonna happen. The work was done and completed, but I thought to myself that I would never buy the warranty again. There was a lot of confusion. They said that I owed money, but the contract said that it was already paid for. My realtor had to go back and forth with American Home Shield. We got it straightened up in the beginning, but when we had to do the pool heater and we worked with the gentleman there who had the case, he was not very kind and was very difficult to work with. Even the company that they dispatched, it was probably a busy time of the year for them, so I understood. However, there was no communication.

Then, I recently had an attic fan go out. It can't be that much for that, but I put in the claim anyway. I did everything online and didn’t talk to a human being at all. It was very simple to schedule. There was a very tight integration in all the communication. The service tech came out and the company did the work. It was very well done and it was totally two different experiences. I can't even tell how bad the first one was. The guy came out and he was a nice guy. I asked that company another question and after that, they never followed up, but the work was done and that’s what they get paid for.

However, it was a very awkward and frustrating process. I would have just paid for it out of my pocket and get it done with, and when I got the estimate, it was $550. But with American Home Shield, it was $100, I did it online, and it was a refreshing experience. There were two different experiences and I can't take the human out of it.

I am very displeased with this company. I reported the same problem with air conditioner for almost a year. They assigned to a company who advises in phone calls they do not work for AHS anymore. I view this continued assignment to a dummy company as the start of delaying and cost avoidance, which are the two primary goals of this operation.

After hours on hold to try and get acknowledgement of the service I pay for monthly, they assign to a company with skilled techs who are required to check in with them at every step of the process. Then, halfway through fixing the unit (record high temps here) AHS cancels that company's work orders, and refers me back to the company who says they won't work with AHS any longer. Then after hours on hold trying to fix that, they refer to a company who walks in and says those units are no good, you have to replace it with mini-splits, at a cost of $20,000 -- and he is pushing for a commitment.

Finally, I got approval - again after hours on hold - to have the first company back, and they are only covering about 2/3 of the cost, based on a clause in the contract that applies to refrigerators, not HVAC. I'll be filing complaints with BBB and our state Attorney General's office for consumer affairs, and considering a small claims action to recover the cost they refused to pay. Avoid these guys. Their market is real estate agents, who use this to sell clients as protection for their new home. It isn't worth the paper it is written on. Do not allow a contract with them on the purchase of your new home - find another company.

We live in the fastest growing city in US, but yet their first response is "we have no one in your area." Then we call to get the claim "expedited," stay on hold for an hour or more and a week later get someone out. Sometimes the companies are good, mostly they are not. This last claim the company sent out a repair person who told AHS a repair was covered and then AHS made them send out a second technician who said it wasn't covered as per his instructions from his boss, AHS is their biggest customer. Find another company and make sure whoever you go with they guarantee that they have plenty of service providers in your area.

As soon as he finished everything, it started raining so he had it timed just right. It was wonderful. I thought there was gonna be more to the process but it was quite easy. The temperature got to be super hot. It was definitely 100+ for a few weeks in a row and the upstairs wasn’t cooling although the downstairs was. I put in a claim online and American Home Shield charged me $75 for the service. The contractor came out within five days and he was fantastic. He was super pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. He explained what he was doing. He checked how much power was being put out by the AC unit, deep cleaned the unit and checked the filters. He also told me where things should be and why something can happen.

I asked him a couple of random questions about my unit and he was able to explain how my unit was, how it compared to other units and what I might consider in the future if I would be replacing it. He said that the service was guaranteed for 60 days, which gave me some comfort. It seemed like an easy fix and I was worried the AC was not gonna work again once he left. But that wasn’t the case. The AC has been cooling just fine. I also appreciated that people overly communicated. I had gotten communication by email from the contractor and then moments later I also got one from American Home Shield. So there was comfort in knowing that systems were being used for communicating. That was nice. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I wasn’t aware that rekeying was covered by AHS but I was sent an email that had talked about that. I had planned on doing that because I had recently moved into the house. I set up an appointment on the AHS website, paid the initial fee, the service fee and was told that I would be contacted within 24 hours to set up the time for the rekeying to be performed.

The next day I was called by the worker himself asking if I was available at that time. I was so he came over and he was very friendly. He performed the work quickly and efficiently. I was very well-pleased because he knew what he was doing and was able to move some locks around. All the locks in my house were from different manufacturers. He was able to make some of the outside locks to have the same key to kind of match up the locks in certain doors to make it easier for me. I was also happy with the service being done the next day after I put in the claim.

I requested a plumber about a month later and the plumber came out the next day after putting I put in the claim as well. AHS had me pay the $75 service fee per visit upfront. My hot water pressure was not working sufficiently. It was very low and I didn’t know what exactly that I had to deal with. I figured it was the tank, but the plumber looked over the tank and couldn’t really tell what was going on. He turned the water off and tried to see if it was still running, but besides that, he just kind of looked at it over.

He told me that I would need to drain the tank and fill it back up to see if that would do anything because sometimes, there would be some buildup at the bottom of the tank that needs to get flushed out every once in a while. He had me do that on my own. I did that the next day, and when I was doing that, I figured out that the valve at the top of the tank was not working correctly so I ended up replacing that valve. Because the plumber hadn't really done much when he came out, I wasn’t very happy with his service.

It almost seemed like he was trying to get out of there pretty quickly. I also don’t know if they would've covered that valve on the water heater. He had said that they might not cover a water pressure issue if it wasn’t the appliance so that was another reason I didn’t go back through them. I knew a plumber who was able to replace that valve for me pretty cheaply and so rather than going back to American Home Shield and try to get another plumber out, I used a friend of mine. Otherwise, I'm happy with AHS.

I put my oven on clean and it caught fire inside. Submitting my claim to AHS for it was easy. The contractor who came out was great. He ordered the part and fixed it. It has been working great since then. Submitting a claim through the automated system is hard though. Sometimes, they don't know what you’re saying. Once, when my sprinkler system outside didn’t work, AHS sent me an electrician, but I didn’t need an electrician, I needed a plumber. They had to send somebody else out and it ended up not being covered anyway. However, AHS is pretty reliable. They come out and fix stuff fast so you’re not without your appliance for a long time.

I had American Home Shield back in 2000 until I left that house. I then went into renting and the renters didn’t want to have American Home Shield for whatever reason. It wasn’t my house so I didn’t have a choice. You go with what he goes. He was always getting his little side men working, putting things up and fixing and they were just awful. I tried telling him about AHS and signing AHS up to the house but he never did. As soon as I got here, I had Republic and they were awful and stupid. They messed the air conditioning up and I had to pay over $2000 for a new one. I wasn’t happy with them and I decided to switch back to my good old American Home Shield.

When we turned the air conditioner on but the house wasn’t cooling and it was just warm air coming out, I called American Home Shield and they sent Placer Heating & Air over. It took about a couple of days for them to come out. The contractors, Mike and Ernie, were knowledgeable, nice and educational. I paid $850 for them coming out. They told me what was happening and they offered a maintenance plan on what they were doing so I wouldn't have to pay so much next time if the same problem occurred. They told me to check and call them within 30 days if there was a leak, and now since I'm covered and I have the maintenance plan, they can come out and fix the air conditioner and I won't get charged anymore.

A lot of the stuff around the house got some age on them and it’s a good thing we have the warranty on them. The air conditioning wasn’t working upstairs, but it was fixed. The bigger problem we have with the warranty right now is we have no hot water in one of the bathrooms since we moved in. We had it for about a week or so and we’ve had the plumber come out, but it still isn’t working.

Whatever the plumber did, we were never able to turn on the water for the bathtub or the shower or the sink and that hot water. It was a self-contained hot water tank. The electrician came out, did something, and left, and there is still no hot water. He didn’t check it before he left. He came back out because we said it was still not working. He said that the plumber didn’t change the two elements and that's what the problem is. He also changed out a breaker for us at the same time. It seems that what they’re doing is they’re troubleshooting.

The plumber is coming out today and if he changes out the two elements and we have hot water, then we'll know the electrician was correct and that is where the issue is. We’ve had about two weeks going back and forth. The contractors have been great as far as showing up when they are supposed to, but as far as fixing the problem on the one issue, I’m not really thrilled. We had to reschedule and then make sure that somebody is there. We got a four-hour window.

Nonetheless, the contractors have been nice guys. The American Home Shield concept is great and it’s definitely for an older home like ours. It definitely is a must because and we are at that point of replacing our air conditioning. We know the former owners as well, and he comes out every once in a while and tinkers with it and keeps it running for us.

The contractor told me that my AC unit needed to be off for a minimum of three hours which I didn’t know and I was irritated because it was 100 degrees and I've been waiting for them for about a week to come. I asked if he could come back after I needed to shift because that would have been enough time. He said I had to call back in to make an appointment and he could probably come first thing in the morning. I called them right after he left and they scheduled the appointment for the next Thursday and it was already Friday when this happened. We've been waiting for a week and temperatures were like 103 degrees and my house was like 99 degrees. So I was frustrated and I tried to escalate it with Clear South Placer Heating and Air.

They told me that they would escalate it, they would put me on hold and hang up. They did that to me five times. So, I was very frustrated with them. I called back American Home Shield and told them the situation. They escalated it for me and gave me approval to find my own air conditioning service. They called me back when they said they would and they listened to my situation. American Home Shield was great but Clear South was horrible.

Our upstairs AC was not working, so we called the service provider out. They came and initially told us that it needed to be replaced. We told them that we weren't replacing it for the price that they offered. We just wanted it repaired because something goes wrong with this AC every few years. We figured it was the Freon, so they ended up charging it with Freon. The AC worked for three days before it clunked out again. So we called American Home Shield back and the contractor came back out. But the AC would only keep working for three days and then it would break again. So they would come out and fix it again. Then it would break again.

While this was going on, I have kids in the home. It was also during some of the hottest days that we've had in the state. It was over 100 degrees when they came to the house every day to service it. It became time-consuming because I took a lot of time off from work to be available for the appointments. Despite having come out at least 4 times, they still weren't able to truly fix it. But because I went through American Home Shield, I had to go back through the same contractor that they sent out originally, which was my complaint.

I pay for my policy with American Home Shield every month as I have a contract with them. I called in to submit that claim. The first appointment was fine as it always is due to the time of year when everyone’s AC seems to break, not just mine. So I feel like it was timely to get the warranty set up. The reps have been very courteous and professional. However, it was back and forth and a lot of revisits with the contractor. At first, I felt like they were trying to get me to buy two new units. But the unit has been serviced before and the problem was probably the Freon or some leaks somewhere. Eventually, that was what it was, a leak. So, they replaced the indoor piece, which was the handler. I kept telling them that we were not paying that type of money, and they finally fixed it. The AC is working fine now, but it shouldn’t have taken over a month of repeated appointments to get it fixed.

Throughout the whole ordeal with American Home Shield, the only thing I didn’t understand was why they kept sending the same company out. Pretty much the only thing I paid was my service fee and I had to pay for the Freon. We ended up getting a new unit because the contractor said there was nothing that they could do. So it was way more money than what we expected to pay but we were at the mercy of what they tell us.

Nevertheless, I really don’t think American Home Shield was the problem. I'm a property manager and I always tell people to get a package on their house like American Home Shield. The warranty saves the homeowner and the tenant a lot of headaches because American Home Shield sends out licensed and certified technicians to homes. Normally, the scheduling is not like this situation that I went through. So hopefully, it was just this one-time thing with this contractor.

I have American Home Shield on all of my properties and they're typically pretty good. When something’s wrong, I get that for them to spend less money, they will try to repair it as much as they can. But part of their slogan is, “If it can't be fixed, we'll replace it.” I don’t see where the replacement ever happens as they will try to patch it until it can't be duct-taped anymore. That needs to be better because I've paid money into them for years, so if I need something new, I would expect to get something new.

I would submit claims with American Home Shield for my mom online, and when the AC stopped cooling and eventually stopped working, the contractor came out four times and they couldn’t get it corrected. The last person that came out apparently was like a master AC person according to what AHS had told me on the phone. He gave me a call and at the end of the day, we were still not satisfied. He then started saying that the issue is the house structure and it’s all related to the house itself. I told him that I understood him, but the AC was working before and it's broken now. So if he fixed it and it still was not cooling at the same level, I couldn't understand where the house structure had to do with anything. The contractor said that it was the most that they can do for the unit.

My mom had to relocate and this house is where she wants to be. When we bought the house, the AC was less than four years old, so it's a new unit. I know the problem was not the unit, it’s something else, and for me, the contractor is not doing things right. The bedrooms are still cooling okay. It’s just the front of the house, the kitchen, the living room and the dining room are not at all at the same temperature as it was before the AC broke.

At this point, I haven’t called again, however, I still feel the AC is not cooling well enough. My mom is an elderly person and she doesn't want those people to come back as they just say things that upset her. So we have dedicated ourselves to put ceiling fans in the house and units on the ground, and she’s been happy with that right now especially since the bedrooms are decently cool. Although I'm not satisfied with the situation that just happened, I will recommend AHS to others because we had another issue in the house before and the contractor was awesome about it. It was her stove that was not working correctly and they came and got it fixed.

I have two accounts with American Home Shield. One is for my rental property and one for my primary home. It was easy to do the claim online but if there was something particular that I would need for them to do, I would call it in. I like J & B Retail Construction, the contractor that they sent out for my washer and dryer. They did the work with no discrepancy. But the company they sent before J & B refused to do the washer because it was a stackable washer and dryer. They charged me for that service call even though they didn’t do any service, so I had to put in another order for J & B to come out.

One time I had a claim for a refrigerator and the contractor that came was good but AHS didn’t notify me when a part had to be ordered. They were saying that they didn’t have the part for my refrigerator because I had a Samsung refrigerator. I was without a refrigerator for almost a month and I had to call AHS to find out what was going on. That’s not right. They got my money but then they couldn’t communicate with me. AHS has my email address and phone number, so there should not be any reason why they cannot get in touch with me and it's making me contemplate on leaving them. Also for years on, I have not had to use their service but they gave me a price increase. However, other than those problems, I hadn’t had anything else and I would recommend them.

However, when I was reading the list of things that they cover, it looked like if there were things that were not identified during an inspection, they would cover them. That would be the other things that specific items covered. The way they state that items identified after inspection would be covered is a little bit misleading. But when the fan on my furnace went out and I called them and asked for service, they did a very good job and were very helpful. They assigned a guy and when that guy came, he said that the fan unit itself would cost about $300 and that the furnace was very old. And it was. It was 26 years old. He then suggested to replace the furnace and the fan and I did. Since then, there has been no problems. I would recommend American Home Shield.

Last week the air went out (about the same time as last year and in triple digit heat and high humidity. They charged me the $75 service visit, the air guy came out two days later (on a Thursday) and said he would be back Monday. I called them on Monday because I had not heard anything and they were just then calling the manufacturer for the part. Now, they had come out Thursday at 11 am. Why did they not call then? Or even Friday, or on Saturday (which they are open on)? I called AHS their computer was down and they promised to call me back. 4 hours later, I called them, and got a nut who could not speak English, and was sarcastic and kept calling me the wrong name and talking about the wrong issue.

I finally got her on track and she gave me the run around. She did offer to charge me another $75 to get another tech out there to look at the unit! What was in her pipe? AHS should have called another tech and did a stop payment on the original. But, no, she just told me I had to wait. I tried to get a supervisor on the phone. Either they do not have any or they have too many problems that a supervisor has to take over the calls on. I called back an hour later and they called the vendor who had just ordered the part. Geez! After leaving over 4 messages for the vendor they ordered the part.

Now they say the part will be in within 3 - 5 business days. That puts us at Friday for the part to come in, at the latest, supposedly. Do you think they will make it out Saturday? I highly doubt it. In high humidity and temps, is this not why we purchase a warranty company. I called 3 Air conditioning companies and they could get the part faster but then I would be out about $700. I asked AHS to reimburse me and they said no. What good are they if they do not have quality service techs and just tell you to kiss off when there is a problem?

I first filed request for Service for my air conditioner in Sept 2017 with a fee of $75.00. The company whom was contracted to service, had no idea what was wrong with my AC unit and provided AHS with a false estimate stating it was “missing parts”. I hired my own on June 6th AC company and was informed my AC unit didn’t have the parts the first service company noted “missing parts” which caused my service repair request to be declined. I called AHS June 8th 2018 and I had to pay an additional $75.00 to create another service request. Total Heating & Air Conditioning was the company come out within 2 days.

It is now July 30th 2018 and I have called American Home Shield 8 times and Total Heating and Air has not been out to repair my Air Conditioning. As of July 30th AHS has now given my service request to yet another company Central Heating and Air Conditioning. I am utterly disappointed with American Home Shield and its lack of commitment, follow through and the ability to contract to respectable contractors to repairs.

It has been 3 weeks now. My washing machine is broken. Trying to use the home warranty by them to get it fixed. That's what it's for after all. The technician they sent has bad reviews himself on Google (2 stars is about as bad as it gets) so no wonder he can't fix it. He closed my ticket while the unit is still broken. He said it needed a motor, but just closed the ticket. NOT FIXED. And he never told us he wasn't coming back out. I've spent almost $200 now at the laundry mat. You can't complain or get American Home Shield to help because they have NO email, NO one will answer the phone. Multiple multiple calls of over 30 min on hold on 2 different customer service numbers and no human EVER answers. I did get someone to communicate on Messenger, but not to the last 4 messages requesting additional help. So someone sees those, they just choose not to do anything which is even worse.

I have now joined a class action against them, and will be finding another warranty company. I will have to pay for the washer repair out of pocket when I switch. Which stinks. Just don't buy a warranty with them. They are a rip off SCAM company. They just want your monthly premium but they will not talk to you or help you. They should be shut down.

Updated on 08/06/2018: I have had huge headaches with AHS. Do not get a "warranty" from them. If you look on BBB, Angie's List and just Google reviews you'll see nothing but problems and the word SCAM a lot describing them. They refused to finish repairs on my washing machine. I got a VM from someone in their Social Media dept saying so, but not why. And certainly not what their contract claims "if it can't be fixed well replace it." That has never happened as far as I can see in any of their reviews. I wasted $500 on laundry bills & my own service person when theirs stopped coming out to fix my unit. I could have invested that in a new washer.

I have been trying over a week to get ANYONE to pick up the phone so I could cancel this garbage. Well finally got their "retention dept" today thru the phone no on my online bank acct. She said she would cancel the contract but I'd have to pay this months (I will NOT, reporting to my bank who will indeed cover me after I send them my phone logs of being on hold and all the messages unanswered on messenger - they don't have an email address) There is NOWHERE on the website to cancel - adding to the multiple other people calling the company a scam. It is. They want your premium without providing any service.

Just run. There is NOTHING legitimate about them. I have already reviewed here & BBB but now I am turning over to Attorney General consumer protection division. Mine is NC. Every state has one. I have had luck with them with a car warranty co. They really go after fraud like this. I encourage all of you who have had issues (I sure see many complaints on all these sites) to do so so we can shut this fraud down. It's ridiculous to say the least. On my last review, you see they responded until I asked the hard questions - then no comment. As well as someone writing me an email from their Social media - no reply at all to my questions or concerns. But most of all they didn't repair or replace my appliance as their contract states.

I could not be more disappointed with my first experience using American Shield's services, after paying for 2 years, I called in and they simply DID NOT get my refrigerator repaired yet. They send a vendor technician in a week, they lost the order information in their system. According to the vendor, the tech HAD send in, They told me they had not. Ok, started over after 15 days then, nothing, I called so many times, experiencing 30-45 min hold times and no one seems to have the previous notes and had to transfer me to authorization, 20 more minutes or so and they would say it has been authorized, same story at around 30 days, I'd call over and over for a status and no answer, then, one day, they said one of the parts had a delay, I'd ask for a ETA and no one knows.

Then, I called again and they offered me to settle on $440 on a $2K refrigerator. They would not replace because my refrigerator is repairable, no supervisor or manager to escalate my call or take ownership. No one cares that it's Summer and I have to live out of a cooler for over a MONTH. UNBELIEVABLE. WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER.

First, I do not like writing a negative review about any company but this has to be one of the worst companies I have ever experienced. When I purchased the home I thought it would be prudent to purchase a home warranty just in case. Before deciding what company to go with, I wanted to narrow down the many choices.

I contacted AHS and asked what would they replace my fixtures/appliances like for like and I was assured they would, to further illustrate what I meant I explained that I had an 80 gallon stainless water heater installed would they replace the heater if necessary with an 80 gallon stainless heater and I was assured they would. They did explain if anything needed to be brought up to code there would be an added cost because that was a non covered expense. Within a year my A/C system started to fail, I contacted AHS and after sitting on hold for over 2 hours I was told a company would contact me. Integrity Air contacted me back and scheduled an appointment within 3 days, I was given a 5 hour window when they would show (they showed up 7 hours later). The air conditioning was misdiagnosed and the temperature in the home reached 97 degrees.

I called the company back and was given another appointment 2 days later. The company arrived back on a Friday and found the A/C coil had froze. In order to do a diagnosis they would need to come back the following week (Tuesday). I called AHS and explained the urgency and asked for another company to come out (this took almost 4 hours). AHS explained they would have to charge me another $150 diagnostic fee. I explained it is the same issue I had last week and had already paid the $150, I finally agreed and I was scheduled for Tuesday. The company had to perform a DYE test and fill the unit with Freon at $89.00 per LB. AHS paid $10.00 per LB. I covered the remaining.

Today marks 3 weeks & 4 days with no A/C. By the way I am on hold with AHS going on 2 hrs & 36 minutes. I contacted the new A/C company hired by AHS and they stated they have submitted paperwork 3 times to AHS and are still waiting to have a representative from AHS contact me. The new A/C company stated they will need to wait for AHS to ship them parts before they can schedule my repair and I will have an out of pocket cost of $1000.00. This company intentionally tries to frustrate you, the hidden fees will cost you more, every contractor I have spoken with tells horror stories about this company. If there was ever a buyer beware this is it!! BTW, I'm still on hold.

Just One Call was sent to my home through our home warranty company, American Home Shield. The tech knew enough to get by, but should not have this job. He was very unprofessional, blaming the inadequacy of the 30 year old AC unit on me. He told me a part was broken, so he used a zip tie. I ask if that was temporary while he fixed other things... Nope! Told me it would last a lifetime. (He used them several locations) He kept receiving personal calls while working on our unit.

When he had the unit back together and running, I kept asking about the horrible noise it was now making. Was told it was fine, it would stop. He continued to complain and question me about previous AC techs. Told me he was better, but wouldn't answer any of our questions. The final straw was he kept insisting I use a check. I didn't have a check to use, but he wanted me to find a way. A week later, the AC is broken again. The awful noise he created never went away. Unfortunately, American Home Shield will only send out the same vendor for repair. I tried to tell them how uncomfortable he made me, and how unprofessional he was. I told her I do not want this company working in my home again. American Home Shield will not stand by its customer no matter how uncomfortable I feel by this vendor. I am extremely disappointed in American Home Shield.

My AC was not pumping any air at all. Submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield online was easy and I got an acknowledgment within a few minutes. Then the local service provider called me the next morning and they were able to get their guy out two days later. It was less than 72 hours which at this time of year didn’t surprise me. I was a little disappointed that he took two days to get out but here in Las Vegas in the summer, I was lucky to get that. The gentleman came out towards the end of the time range that they gave me on the day but he was still within the time range. He did some work. He was outside. He was inside. And then, he went up into the attic and had to replace a fuse. He was working at our house within 30 minutes and he got the system working properly since.

I really appreciated American Home Shield's electronic updates. That helped a lot if only to keep me informed about what was happening with the claim and to show me that it had been checked on. I bought the house in January of 2008 and I had coverage through September 2017, then I let the AHS policy lapse. I just got careless on paying the payments. I signed back up in May of this year and I’ve just been back on a plan that is identical to the one I had before. It’s a better cost. It’s about $5 less a month and it’s a great deal and it’s cheaper long-term too. I don’t wanna lose American Home Shield again.

My air conditioning issue hasn't been fixed yet. The contractor came out three days after I submitted the claim online through American Home Shield. The technician came out and was here for about 20 minutes. He said he fixed the issue and it was working when he left and then an hour later, it quit. I contacted the AC company and told them that he had just been out an hour ago and then it quit again, that he had mentioned that the blower would probably go out but he didn’t replace it then which he should have. They told me that they couldn't work on my system again. They sent my information back to American Home Shield so that they could find another contractor to come out and work on my system.

Another contractor came out and he told me that the blower definitely went out and if they could find one, it would be pretty expensive and I already have a train unit outside that can be converted from the old furnace to use electric heat. He said it would be probably cheaper and a better idea to move over to that which would fix all issues for the future.

We are from Oregon, we moved to Oklahoma, and we bought a home. Our realtor recommended AHS and another company. Then I did a little online research and the reviews for American Home Shield were better than the ones for the other company. So, I went with them. But I did not realized at the time that there was gonna be a $75 co-pay every time I needed something done at my house.

I would also tell people to plan to file a claim online with AHS and still try to get hold of an actual person. When our air-conditioner went down on a Friday and we discovered it around 6:30 when we came home, we tried to call and there was an hour wait time with American Home Shield. So it was a 100 degrees outside, we were looking forward to a long weekend, and we weren't real happy about that. Then on their voicemail, it said you could do the claim online. So we tried to do that, but there was some confusion. When I first called for a different issue, they said that if you called for the same issue, you only have to pay the $75 once. And I thought that since I was gonna be calling at a plumber to work on the air-conditioner, it was the same $75. But it wasn't and I misunderstood all that.

So I ended up calling back and waiting on hold for an hour. Then, I told them my problem and about 45 minutes later, I got an email saying that their vendor tried to contact me and I didn't answer my phone, which was completely not true. So I called back again and I was on hold for over 45 minutes. And the lady that answered the phone said that what I got was the false email. She also said that everybody got it. At any rate, it was really frustrating to get through to them.

Then, I finally got an email early Saturday morning that said who our provider was supposed to be. I called them Saturday morning because I didn't know if they work on weekends and I wanted to know when they were gonna be calling me, and sure enough, they did. This plumbing company said that they were really busy and they were gonna call me on Monday. Monday came around and they called. I got a hold of an appointment schedule for the next day but they didn't even show up for. It's been four days now and I haven't heard from them yet.

Before that, I submitted a claim online with AHS for the disposal on the kitchen was leaking. The plumber called me within a couple of hours, they got something scheduled right away, and got it all done. That was great. Then, we had a claim for the air-conditioner and it took six days before someone came to my house. The guy was really rude and he got the air-conditioner working a little bit better but it still wasn't where it should be. So I ended up re-opening that claim. AHS sent another company who was pleasant and but he said that the air-conditioner is undersized for our home, which I understand is not something that a warranty company is going to cover. In fact, a gentleman called me the next day and he wanted to explain that to me.

I also had some work on the pool filter and the pool pump that needed to be taken care off. I submitted a claim online with AHS and the person that called, John, and his wife both came out to do the work. They were both very professional and friendly. They also answered a ton of questions that I had about the pool equipment. I haven't been impressed with the vendors at AHS except for these pool people.

Right now, I would love to talk to someone at American Home Shield and say that this plumber that I made a claim for about four days ago about didn’t call me. And I would love to tell AHS to get me a different vendor or call their vendor and tell them that they need to do what AHS are expecting him to do. American Home Shield sent me an email saying I'd have a contractor within 24-hours but that was not happening. I wanna tell them that so that they can take care of it. But I'm not gonna wait on hold forever.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for three weeks and when I called a couple of times, I was on hold for ages because there was an issue with my account. I had to go right around with my real estate agent and get the direct number of a salesperson there who was able to fix it and got it resolved in 10 days. We talked to the rep, I was able to log in and that has been paid for. She took care of it immediately and we got it all cleared up. I had some challenges on the phone so I submit claims on the computer instead where the process is not complicated.

For my first claim, American Home Shield sent A&R. The contractor knew what he was doing and communicated the entire time. He told us during the entire process everything he was gonna do and he was on time for a first-time fix. He called before he came, told me when he would be there and he kept calling and updating me to how far out he was. He was very professional and focused. He started from the ground floor and worked his way up into the attic and he resolved the issue on the first try of it. It was everything you’re looking for in a service and it was a complete pleasure to work with A&R.

We also put in a claim for a key service, that I put in a call a few weeks ago and they’re gonna be coming out this Sunday to do it. That was a little bit more challenging with the key company, getting us along. They called and when I called back, they told me that they didn’t have my information on file. Two days later, I got another call from somebody else and we got it set up.

I wish that I had a number where somebody would be more responsive and I can call in, ask for a question and they’d answer. I need to put in another service request for a washing machine but I wanna ask exactly what the process is if they can’t fix the washer. I want to know if it is going to be worth it having somebody come take a look at it or if I should just go buy a new one. I’m trying to figure that out because I looked on reviews of their washer in the house and everyone has got problems with it all across the board. I want to know if the $75 was worth the investment or if I should put it where I want it. I’m hesitant to call American Home Shield because I don’t wanna be on hold for half an hour waiting for an answer to my phone call.

My AC unit wasn’t working that well. We would put it on 76 and it wouldn’t go below 79 downstairs. We decided to call American Home Shield and have some people come out to fix it. The company came out after a week. The guy said that my AC had leaks and he didn’t have the right tool to fix it. He was gonna add pounds of refrigerant and then I would be all set. He also told me that he will be back in a couple of days. So he came back and said that he didn't have the tools. He changed the wall mount for us which wasn’t necessary and said that he will be back the next day. When he came back, he put two pounds of Freon and then charged us $200 because AHS wouldn't cover the Freon. He then said that my AC would be blazing cold now and then he put it on 76. It was cold indeed.

The very next day, we left for Seattle for a week and we turned the temperature to 82 degrees because we weren’t living in the house. When we came back, we turned our AC down to 78 and it wouldn’t budge. It was 90 degrees. We called American Home Shield again and they sent out another company which came a week later. Their technician said the first company messed it up. The Freon leaked out, it was empty and there was nothing in there. This tech wanted to make sure that there were leaks but he didn’t know where it was coming from and so he pumped it full of nitrogen to see where the leaks were. He then asked me to call American Home Shield and request a redo from the original company.

We called AHS and they called the original company. By this time, it was 114 degrees out. The guy from the original company asked what I was talking about. He insisted it was full and there was Freon in there. I told him that there was none and the AC doesn't work. I also added that another company came out and pumped it full of nitrogen to see where the leaks were. Again, he said that he didn't have the right tools to fix the job and that his office will call me. He then left. We tried to call his company, Ice Cube Air but they wouldn't answer their phone. We then called American Home Shield and they told me they couldn't do anything until Ice Cube Air has sent the paperwork to them and that could take up to 48 hours. Given the excessive heat warnings, we had to rent a hotel for a whole week because we weren't gonna live in the house with no AC. I have a two-year-old.

Ice Cube Air finally submitted the paperwork and AHS would charge us 800 bucks to fill it completely full of refrigerant. This got me angry because it doesn't make any sense. In fact, AHS made it worse and then, they decided that Ice Cube Air was gonna do it and take care of it because they messed up. However, they couldn't come back for another week.

While the AC has already been fixed, I'm very dissatisfied with my experience. American Home Shield wouldn’t do anything for me except that they would give me an AC unit for my window but they will only pay $75 for one. I went to Home Depot and ACs were 300 bucks. American Home Shield is in charge and they’re the boss. Although it's not much of their problem as it was with Ice Cube Air, they hired these people and these people dropped the ball. Furthermore, AHS reps weren't accommodating. Every time I would talk to somebody different, nobody really cared and I was just another customer.

Other people had great experiences with AHS and I’m sure there has been thousands. It’s just the luck of the draw. If we got a good company to come out, then everything would’ve been fine and AHS would’ve been the savior. I wouldn’t have had to reach out to them multiple times but you get what you pay for. When you’re dealing with a home warranty company, you’re getting red-headed stepchild companies that come out like the foreigners. I’m dealing with a lot of small companies, and they didn’t speak English very well. It’s professional and that’s who you get when you have these companies come out for the warranties. We can’t look behind us and we’re gonna look forward.
