We've been customers for years with AHS, and it's so disappointing how the claims are handled now. In the past, you would schedule a repair, the assigned company would come out and fix it, pay your fee and be done. Well, that's no longer the policy. Any part needed for repair are ordered through AHS, then shipped to your contractor. This process slows down the repairs tremendously!!! Our AC went out on 8-16, Contractor comes out on 8-17, Parts ordered on 8-20, and we're still waiting on parts to be delivered. Contractor said they may(?) be delivered tomorrow. She wasn't sure. So, I'm looking at around 12 days of no AC with 95+ degree Texas heat. This should be unacceptable from AHS...
Hello, David. We apologize for the delays that you are experiencing with having your issue resolved. All companies are set up with us differently, some prefer to have us order their parts while others are able to order parts on their own. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to further assist.

In May of this year, our A/C stopped blowing cool air. I contacted AHS and they sent HRS Heating and Cooling to fix the issue. HRS ended up changing out the compressor, the type of coolant it ran on, and two valves (one inside and one outside). In August, the A/C did the same thing. I called HRS and submitted a service request. I asked for HRS to return, but was told they “were unavailable”. AHS sent Stout Heating and Air to diagnosis and fix the issue. Stout’s diagnosis was “catastrophic failure” that was caused by changing the type of coolant in the A/C.
The following day, I was contact by AHS authorizations and told Stout was authorized to change the entire heating and cooling system (the outdoor unit as well as the air handler inside), but I would be responsible for $2175 of uncovered expenses (these ranged from a concrete pad to ductwork and wiring). At that time, I informed the authorizations POC that their contractor (Stout) said the issue was the result of what their original contractor (HRS) did in May. The AHS authorizations POC placed me on hold and contacted Stout to get confirmation of what I said. When they returned, they informed me that Stout told them the same thing and the issue was being turned over to “contractor relations” for resolution.
At this point, I ask how long that will take and what I’m supposed to do about my A/C in the meantime. I was told it could take up to 10 days as “contractor relations” had to contact both contractors and make a decision on a course of action. The AHS authorizations POC then placed me on hold and when they came back told me they had secured a reimbursement for me to get a standalone A/C while they worked through the issue. I specifically asked how much I was authorized and I was told $400. The AHS authorizations POC then gave me a “dispatch number” and email address to submit the receipt to for reimbursement.
To my surprise, I was contacted within a couple days by HRS and informed they had received a service request from AHS. They had no idea Stout had already been to the house or of “contractor relations” involvement in the issue. I decided to call Stout and see if “contractor relations” had contacted them. I was told they had not been contacted, but had picked up the new A/C equipment and was ready to schedule the install. I told them AHS was sending out HRS and I wasn’t prepared to pay $2175 to fix HRS’ mistake.
HRS came to the house as scheduled by AHS and fixed the A/C within 20 minutes of arrival. They discovered the motor on the exterior unit had seized up and replaced it. This took nine days total, from first call to HRS coming and fixing the A/C. During the course of the issue, I was told they would waive the $100 service request fee. However, I have gotten two email notifications telling me the fee is “overdue”. I’ve called three times and been told it has been taken care of and will disappear from my dashboard (online account) within a few days.
When I submitted the receipt for the stand alone A/C it was just shy of $385. A couple days ago, I got a check in the mail for $100. I called and was told that is all I was authorized (per the notes in my account) and they “didn’t have to do that”. I insisted the AHS authorizations POC told me $400 and after nearly an hour on the phone discussing potential courses of action including me filing a small claims suit, the AHS POC I was speaking to said he would request that phone call where I was told $400 be pulled and reviewed. Even in the instance they review the call, there is still the wide disparity between the two contractors’ diagnosis of the issue.
I’m still working through this… My goal is to get the $100 service request fee waived as I was told it would be and the full reimbursement for the stand alone A/C since I stayed under the $400 I was authorized. The bigger issue here is when I discussed the potential for a small claims suit, the AHS POC I was speaking with said I was not “allowed” to file a small claims suit per my contract. According to the contract, any dispute has to be resolved via arbitration (a costly venture). This is complete bull. Signing away a judicial due process right is very unlikely to hold up in the eyes of the court. I’m still weighing the options, but I would prefer AHS just do the right thing.
Hi, William. We apologize that you had to endure many hot days while we attempted to figure out what was happening with your unit. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns and assist with the service fee and reimbursement issues.

When our air conditioner was not cooling our house, I called American Home Shield to make a claim. It was very difficult to get a hold of somebody and it took me at least 40 minutes to get somebody. Customer service is pathetic. It's a call center, and majority of them don't have the customer service in the way they talk. But luckily, I called early at around 8 o'clock in the morning and the contractor came out the same day. Usually, the previous wait times is 24 to 48 hours. But in the summer, sometimes we need somebody quicker and previous tech that we had didn't come out till two days later so it was very tough.
The tech from Metro Building Maintenance Service that came out was awesome, professional and has a very personable personality. He called me ahead and let me know he was on his way. He came in and took care of the problem. He knew exactly what the issue was and replaced the parts. I liked him very much because he was the one who also fixed the previous AC issue, and he did well on both jobs. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield was pretty satisfactory. But the claims process to get to somebody sometimes is just a little tough and AHS should get more vendors who accept their program to get somebody out to the customer as quickly as possible.

Having a warranty on our property is very valuable and American Home Shield is great. Once, I called them because my toilet was running and the claims rep I talked to was fine. A contractor then came after a couple of days. However, he never fixed the problem. He said he put something new in there, but it never fixed it. Today, I turned the water up totally because it keeps running and it is running up my water bill.
Good morning Brenda,
I would be glad to speak with you and get the plumbing issue resolved. I will contact you within the next 24 business hours to proceed with getting the issues resolved.

My grandson came down here from Massachusetts and redid all of my plug-ins, including my switches, and changed them all out for me because they were old. When he did the outside switch, he put something that can be reset if it was getting overloaded. When my electricity wasn't working in the back bathroom, I called American Home Shield and talked to them about it. The man came in and looked. My other grandson was there with him and showed him what wasn’t working. We had no idea about the reset switch and the man just flipped it and charged me $75 for being here for two minutes.
I wasn’t satisfied with that and I don’t think that was fair. He wasn’t really scheduled to be here but he was in the neighborhood. He called and asked if he can go ahead and come by. But then, they charge me for him to flip a switch. This never happened to me before. He was not supposed to be on the dispatch until two days away and I don’t think I should be charged. Other than that, I've been satisfied with American Home Shield. If something happens, they always send somebody else out or send somebody else back out in place of the contractor if I say I don’t want them to come back out here.

There were two plumbing issues in the house, a leak in the sink and a toilet that was not operating properly. I did my claim with American Home Shield online and it was easy. I liked the process. Also, I heard back from the contractor quickly. Although, it was a little bit confusing because the two different issues were assigned to two different plumbers and I ended up scheduling two visits on it. There were two different days in order to fix the problems that likely could have been combined into one appointment. It wasn’t too much of a hassle, but it was kind of odd.
Both the contractors were really good. The person who came first and helped to diagnose the problems did an excellent job. And then, the gentleman who came for the second appointment was also very good. Everything is working fine now. I would recommend AHS. It’s a worthwhile service especially for older homes that typically experience these sort of plumbing problems.

It was extremely easy to go online and make a claim with American Home Shield. I filed one for a failed garage door opener. The process was very simple and I was amazed that I had gotten the response back from them within two minutes. It was really fast. They had emailed and advised me which of their local suppliers here in the Woodburn area would be coming. Then within two minutes of that acknowledgment, I received an acknowledgment from the supplier. They texted saying that they were the ones and they were verifying that the appointment window was going to work for me. It was extremely well-organized.
When the technician was here, he was very knowledgeable, professional, prompt, and clean. He said things with the garage opener were further gone than he thought. He could repair it that day, but I'd probably call them again the next day because he felt that the repair would not last. He really looked into it and wanted to make things right for me by going through the steps to see if a repair could happen, so then it would be less expensive overall. It was nice to have somebody that did that rather than saying all he could do was to repair it, so that is what he would do. The technician had his office reach out to the appropriate department in American Home Shield to get the authorization to completely replace the garage door opener as opposed to repair. It was authorized and they did everything right at the same time. I was extremely impressed with American Home Shield and have recommended them to other people already.

We got a notice from the city of Abilene that we had a leak and they said that we used 21,000 gallons of water. A rep asked if we filled up the pool which we don’t have. So, I made a claim to American Home Shield and they sent a contractor out within 24 hours. He checked and said that there were two drippy faucets and a bathroom that was running. He told my wife what he was doing as I was out of town that week. When I talked to the water department, the person said the leaking faucets could do it based on how much they were running. So far, it has been good however we haven’t gotten our next quarter bill yet. We have recommended AHS to other people and my in-laws have signed up since. It is well worth the money.

The quality of most of American Home Shield’s providers is horrible and they're only affiliated with AHS just to try to get in and then instead of trying to resolve issues. They just sell things like a new AC. Affiliating with AHS is a way for them to get in and try to get our money some other way. I'm a realtor and I’ve referred AHS through my business for 12 years but sometimes I feel like I'm paying for nothing. I don't even want some companies close to any of my properties and usually, when I insist, I'm able to get the people that I end up with. That's when I get results.

I was nearing the end of my warranty with American Home Shield so I had them check out an old furnace. I had a free furnace checkup before that and I found out that it was producing some carbon monoxide. I had them come out before it gets too close winter time. I submitted the claim online and it was really easy. It took me five minutes. I just logged in and picked appliances and picked furnace. Then it took a couple of days for them to call back. I did have to wait a while for the contractor but he did a great job. For some reason, the furnace claim did not get from the warranty company to the installers in a timely fashion. It took them three weeks instead of a week and a half. I don't know what happened in that transaction but I'm just happy it got done.

I had moisture on the concrete on my carport floor and it was coming from the little utility room right adjacent to it. I called American Home Shield because I thought that it was the air conditioner since it is on the back side. The air conditioning guy came out and he said that it was a plumbing situation. Then a plumber was sent out and he gave me this big old spiel. He said that I needed to break up the concrete and the issue was probably something underneath. Then, he went back to the office and told them that it was an air conditioning issue.
The air conditioning contractor was sent out again but this time I requested for a different person. He had the door to the utility room opened which I had opened before so they could look in. They could see that there was no water flowing and it was just condensation. We have such high humidity that this is coming from underneath the air conditioner in the laundry room but it is not hurting anything. When the humidity drops, it is gone then when the humidity goes high, it comes back up. The guy that found out that it was condensation said that if anything is different, I have 60 days warranty on the repair. The 60 days will be up soon and so far, everything is still the same.
The difficult part in submitting a claim with AHS was speaking with people with broken English because it was very hard to understand exactly what they were saying. They were being nice and they tried their hardest. But sometimes, it was just frustrating because I couldn’t quite get everything that they were saying. But what upset me more than anything was I had to keep calling American Home Shield because I was charged $125, which is the normal fee, then I was charged $125 again. I authorized the first but I did not authorize the second one. There should have never been a second one. I also kept getting emails telling me that I owe them money.
I called them and said that I didn’t owe them anything and they said they’d take the charge off. But a week later, there it was again on the email. I called them again, then there it was again. I called them this last time and they said that it would not appear again so I’m waiting to see if it would. AHS needs to have some improvement and have some better communication in their office.

They then called me about an hour after I made the claim, and then the guy that was supposed to come out called me about four hours later.
The rep I talked to from AHS side was great, but the guy that they hired was horrible. I was at work and had a pregnant wife at the house and he was just rude from the get-go. He stayed there for five seconds and then he tried to write a false claim. He said the whole unit was ruined and he tried to sell a whole new unit. But the second contractor that came out was great. He was able to go in there, pinpoint the problem in about 15 minutes and then he stayed the extra to check and make sure everything else was working fine. The problem was just a capacitor and he fixed it with an $8 piece that same day. The AC is just back to where it was before and I recommend American Home Shield.

Our AC went out last month during a stretch of 100 degree heat index days. AHS was called and could not get anyone out to our home for over a week. With a pregnant wife and a child who has asthma, we repeatedly called and eventually received a special "outside authorization" to find our own certified HVAC repair company to use. We did this and had someone out by the next day, where they confirmed my suspicions that the compressor was grounded and would need replacement. AHS was immediately notified and decided they wanted to get a second opinion from one of their contractors- who once again said they couldn't get out to our home until the following week.
AHS was called a half dozen times and eventually got someone to come out sooner after several false starts and rescheduling. This company confirmed the original diagnosis and we were finally authorized to have the work done. The company we had found on our own was quick and efficient in their work and our family was finally able to move out of the single room living conditions we had been enduring for well over a week.
We spent $5200 out of pocket (on top of our AHS deductible) and were told that a reimbursement check would arrive within 2-3 weeks. When that time had passed without any contact from AHS, we began calling them. Each call was well over 40 minutes of being transferred and lied to as they pretended to have no idea what we were talking about. We were given multiple addresses to send our supporting documents to in addition to being told we could not submit them electronically... only to later be told that we should have emailed our documents. Simply infuriating.
Now, 8 weeks later, we received a check in the mail for ten dollars. That's right, ten dollars. They hoped we would cash it without reading the fine print and let them off the hook for the remaining $5190 of incurred costs. Absolutely scummy business practices. Dealing with AHS feels like we are bargaining with an organized crime family. I am left with little recourse outside of public reviews. Shameful.

The door of the washer was not locking properly, so I submitted a claim. The door is okay now. I submitted another service call for my heating and cooling, but that didn't go well. American Home Shield sent two service personnel and they differed by their opinions. My opinion was that AHS didn't consider the right recommendation. The cooling system for the lower bedroom was okay, but the upper bedroom was not cooling at all. This house is a little old and so is the compressor. The other person said the compressor should be covered by insurance, but the other guy said the compressor was so dusty, it needed some cleaning, and that was not covered. So, the unit was not fixed although it was covered.
According to the diagnosis, it is the compressor that is not working properly. The techs checked the fluid and they said that it is okay and the compressor is working. But, it is not cooling the upper bedroom properly, so it is still unsolved. American Home Shield sent me a letter saying I needed some cleaning and then it will work. I clean my duct and other things always, yet it is not working for me. Overall, however, the people at AHS are prompt. When I call for a service request, I receive a response in the shortest time. I worked with three service personnel and two of them were pretty nice and I was happy with them. But, one person didn't focus on the right point.

When we had an issue with our air conditioner, my wife submitted a claim online and we got a contractor within 24 hours. When he got here, we explained to him what was going on. He inspected the unit because there was an outside and inside part. He went back and forth a little while, and then he said that there was a Freon leak and that our system was an older system. He also said that AHS will only cover a small part of the cost to recharge the Freon. He didn't repair the leak and he didn’t recharge the Freon. I’ve put in about five requests with American Home Shield but only one turned out well. I wouldn’t recommend AHS for the cost. If I took what their service cost per month and put it in a savings account, I could have covered my repair expenses from that.

The washing machine's pump went out. Submitting the claim for it to AHS went fine but it took almost three weeks to get the washer fixed. It was an issue from the parts company to the people who were doing the repair and the home warranty. We had to go to the laundromat twice a week because we have a grandparent that lives with us. We've spent about 100 bucks to go outside the house to get our clothes washed in three weeks and that was an inconvenience. It was recommended that the washer needed to be replaced because the pump was bad. A factory replacement couldn't be found and AHS sent out a non-factory pump. The technician came out and he explained to my wife when he fixed the washer that it probably wouldn’t last six months because it's an aftermarket part and it's a very weak pump.

I had good interactions with the contractor and the AC has been working fine since the repair.
The thing that worked well for us is we have two air conditioners, so we stayed downstairs and the kids slept downstairs. Had we not had a second air conditioner, my experience probably would have been different. We dealt with the hot upstairs for four days, but had the whole house been that way, we wouldn’t have been able to stay in our house. AHS delivered on what they said they were going to do and it was what I expected. It’s a good service, but it’s a service that we don’t get an immediate response. We get faster service going direct and doing our own thing than using an intermediary like AHS. The contractor came a couple of days later and my husband said that dealing with the guy was okay. However, he wasn’t able to fix the problem with the sink in the master bathroom. I called AHS and told them so they sent someone out. There was a piece missing from a part of the pipe. The problem didn’t have anything to do with it but that was what the plumber was trying to tell AHS. By that time, I've already paid the $75 copayment to the company and then they weren’t able to fix it.
The contractor said that if we wanted them to come out again, they would apply the $75 fee but it should have been fixed since the part missing didn’t have anything to do with the parts that needed to be fixed. The warranty is valuable but I don’t like that AHS was being nitpicky about this piece missing. If I knew that there was a part missing and they were going to deny it, then I would've called anybody out to start with.

The unit was felted and they wouldn’t cover that. They don’t cover the decking, so I had to hire someone to come out and replace all the decking. The guy was much better and he worked on it. I have two A/C units -- one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. He got both of them running, but there was a leak and so I called in the third time. Another technician is coming out today who would work on it again.
Each time I called American Home Shield, I had to call the contractor and I wasn’t super pleased with all of them. One contractor brought his dog with him, which was not very professional. The dog was running around the house and yard. He asked me if it was all right to take the dog out, but I couldn’t see him leaving the dog in the truck. The guy worked hard and he was there for an hour and a half, but he didn’t fix the problem so I wasn’t too happy. Now, they gotta come out again. We thought it was finished, but, after four weeks, it won’t cool anymore. I’ve got a senior technician coming out today and, hopefully, he’ll be able to do a complete diagnosis and tell me what’s going on with it.
So far, American Home Shield has been okay, but after today, I’ll find out whether I like them or not. Also, I paid for a full year when I set up the initial policy with them and it was supposed to be effective immediately. We moved into the house and we had air conditioning and hot water heater problems. However, they said I can only call in one issue within the first 21 days, so I had to wait 21 days before I could call them on the other issue. They should have told me upfront that there was only one issue I could call in.

There was a water leaking from the hose and so my wife called American Home Shield. The reps were professional and courteous. After five days, the techs came and then they had to come back for another week because they had to order the parts for the hose because it wasn't too tight. After the repair, the hose has been working good. Having a home warranty is very valuable. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

We were having problems with one of our AC units at our home. I called AHS to submit a claim and the rep that I talked to was very pleasant, interactive and had a very good follow up. A lot of times you get call centers and people will say they'd call you back and it takes a week, but with AHS, the rep called the next day. There were two companies that came out over the course of three weeks and they did a phenomenal job of replacing the AC unit, so I was very pleased with them. On the other hand, there was a bit of a snafu because they ordered the part and there was another contractor that was sent out, so that held up about a week, but it was resolved. In addition, our power went out right before they were about to finish. We had a storm so they were very apologetic and they said that we were closer than we were a couple of weeks ago. They came back the next day and knocked it out.
The AC's been working which was the main goal. I was very pleased with the quality of the work that was done and I would highly recommend the vendor. AHS needs to keep doing what they're doing. A friend of mine told us about AHS and the quality of the service they provide. We went online and looked at the reviews. There were some things that were negative, but we still went out for what our friend said. We followed through and it worked out. If someone would ask me about AHS, I'd tell them to apply.

I usually call American Home Shield to submit a claim and the first time, we had to go through something because we have just been here about two days over a year. The inspection showed that there were a lot of problems that needed to be solved to be addressed. I read through the warranty first to see what it covers, made the telephone call, spoke to someone, and told them what the situation was. When they approved, there was a $75 service fee. The contractors have always been great although a couple of times, we had to pay extra money for something. In general, the service we have received from their contractors has always been very good and they have fixed a faucet that has been leaking since we moved here.
However, I kept getting bills for $56.42 starting in late June for August. On July 11th, I paid the first payment of $56.25 and then, on August 3rd, I was informed that I was in arrears and needed to pay $169 and something cents. So, I called to find out what was wrong and the person I spoke with told me to disregard it after she looked through all our records. Then, about two weeks ago, I got an email that said I needed to pay a little closer to $200 to not be in violation of the warranty. I was really frustrated at that point, so over three days, I had conversations with different people, trying to get the payment changed. $56.42 was automatically deducted on the 24th of every month and I spoke with someone finally who said that we could work it out. I gave them all my bank information and she said that they would probably put it in then pull it out.
I didn't understand that I needed to pay three months in advance for our warranty and I want to be certain that the charge has been deducted for September, October and November since I've already paid for August, so I won't be in violation of anything. I will call to make sure that it will be correct going forward. However, I haven't called yet today because I get transferred to so many people that I have to watch myself, so I don't get too frustrated.

Removing emotions and giving just the facts. Arizona - Summer - 100+ degrees consecutively/daily. Saturday 2 am - A/C goes out. Saturday 6 am - I place request online for service. Saturday 10:30 am - I call AHS to check status. Told it is 24/48 hours before I will receive a callback. I explain where I live and what the temperature is. Agent agrees to call contractor. She gets no response and agrees to expedite. 45 minute conversation.
Saturday 1:40 pm - I call AHS again to check status (meanwhile over 90 degrees inside home). I explain the situation all over again, I am told I do not meet the requirements for the service call to be expedited. I disagree and again explain why I disagree. I have a toddler in my home, single parent, no family where I can go stay with and most certainly can't afford a $75 service call AND a motel room/dinner for the night. She begrudgingly agreed to call the contractor. She gets no response from him yet again. She comes back and says he has 30 minutes to respond to her and if he doesn't then I can call back and she will reroute it to a different contractor. 45 minute conversation.
Saturday 3 pm - I call AHS again to check status. Contractor never called, I ask if they can reroute the call, they cannot as no other contractors are able to take calls because it is so late in the day. I tell them to cancel the call, credit me back my service charge and transfer me to a supervisor. She asks me three times why do I need to speak to a supervisor. I explain each time. Finally she agrees to transfer me. She leaves me on hold for almost 40 minutes and the call is disconnected.
Saturday 3:40 pm - I call AHS because I am at this point livid - as soon as it gets to a live person I am hung up on. Saturday 3:42 pm - I call AHS again, I am hung up on. Saturday 3:50 pm - MY SON calls AHS and miraculously he gets through. This gentlemen is able to confirm that they refunded me my service charge and cancelled the call - but openly admits, no supervisors are able to take my call; nor is he able to release an email address or any other means of contact for me to reach a supervisor OR their supervisor. He also confirms there is no way to leave a request online for a callback OR a review of the company. Where is the responsibility to A PAYING CLIENT (I pay monthly for this warranty)? Where is the responsibility to customer service in this situation with several different agents, all of whom treated me exactly the same - as if I did not matter? Underwhelmed to say the very least.

I have called for updates and follow up and have not received any acceptable responses. I was told I would receive a call with an update on 8/20. No call. Today I called three separate times only to have my phone call transferred and put on hold each time for over 20 minutes each and then the call was dropped/hung up.
Disappointment, Frustration are kind words to express my thoughts. There is no backup for a non-working refrigerator. With a broken dishwasher you can hand-wash the dishes, with a broken washer/dryer you can go to a laundromat; what do you do to overcome a broken refrigerator? I have had to purchase a mini (college size one). Very difficult for a working family to live out of for an extended period of time. Please don't waste your money with this company.

I requested to be considerate but they couldn't accommodate. I said I intend to cancel, the agent was quick enough to cancel without any empathy to retain customer. It is now more than a month. I had to file two different claims about a water heater issue with American Home Shield since I had a very poor experience with the first contractor that I dealt with. They were very argumentative. They called me back and left a very unprofessional voicemail on my voicemail. It was a good thing that I recorded the calls. I contacted the Better Business Bureau as a result of that specific contractor. On the other hand, the second experience I had with another gentleman was very professional. He was very polite and completed the work quickly. Since the repair, the water heater has been working fine.
The two companies sent out were on a lower end of what they might charge AHS which could be the reason why they were selected. Their trucks didn't appear to be very clean and weren't very well marked that it was a professional water heating company. It looked like a sticker on a side of a white van which was surprising. I didn't pay much attention to the people when they arrived during the other times as far as their transportation and previously, the people who came in were dressed appropriately. So, it definitely caught my attention this time. Still, AHS is a good investment to help prevent very expensive, unforeseen, home maintenance problems. People should just be mindful of the vendors that are selected.

I’m very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I placed a service call for our air conditioner and we had to wait for a week to get somebody out. The unit made noise and the cold air didn’t come out. I called AHS several times a day to get somebody out because there is an elderly in the house. They always said that they were still looking for a contractor. Then, there was a confusion between two of their contractors. Moreno came out and AHS was supposed to cancel with another contractor but they failed to do it on time so Rick’s showed up as well. Rick’s left but since they still came to the house, even they didn’t do the repair, they submitted a claim to AHS who then charged $100 on my account. So I have $200 double-charged on my account for one service.
I’ve been with AHS for over a year and it got to the point that I just said, “Let me stop and try somebody else to see if it’s better,” and then I cancelled my contract. It’s been more than two months and I still get emails from AHS saying that I owe $100. I called them several times and explained to them that I already paid the $100 service fee. Every time I called, they promised me that they took care of it. On Monday, I called and the girl said that she took care of it, put me on hold for a long time and then she was typing a lot of things in the computer. She said she’s gonna send it to the department and they can void that $100 and hopefully, this time, that’s gonna be it. But then, since they keep saying that same thing over and over, I told her that I had the confirmation number. I had her name and I told her that I’m gonna call back tomorrow to follow up.
Good morning Christine,
I understand your concerns with your AHS experience. Per the review, I understand that your account was charged an extra service fee. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issue.

But the company that diagnosed it said those pipes were so old and were not even up to code. AHS said that the company that diagnosed it offered to fix it for $2600, and I said, "Not this time." I have been with AHS for years and have had a few minor claims with ice makers. 3 days ago my AC went out so we made a claim. I was diligent in going through my profile on AHS to make sure all my contact information was current and my wife’s phone number was deleted from the account as she does not answer numbers she does not know. After looking at my profile no changes were necessary as all my contact information was there and none of my wife’s. About an hour after my claim was submitted my wife informed me that she had a voicemail from A-US AC. I called them back within seconds and was placed in the cue on hold from 4:40 until it dropped me in the voice mail system at 5:00 pm. I left a voicemail explaining we had no AC and it was dangerously hot, could someone please call me ASAP.
After no return call the following day I called again at 10 am and again was placed on hold until again it went to voicemail. This time I went online and booked an appointment, unfortunately by now the next available appointment was 3 days out. I call AHS and asked if my profile had only my contact information why and how is the vendor calling my wife? Her response was “When you sighed up that’s what you gave us”. I signed up years ago and had updated my profile to reflect the new information but AHS doesn’t pay attention to that. They just use the old information you gave them the year you signed up. In essence when you update your profile it's busy work. You are doing just for your benefit and no one looks at it. This caused at least 1 day of delay!
At 4:25 pm I received a call from A-US AC and the gentleman said “I’m returning a call from Joe **”. He was not concerned at the least about the amount of time it took to contact me nor did he care about our family suffering in 100 degree heat while it took 2 days to call us back. This last question before he hung up on me was “Did you end up getting an appointment?” I replied “Yes… but” by that time he uttered “ok” and hung up. This morning the tech came and diagnosed my AC issue and said it was a leaking coil that was letting the Freon escape. He now has to submit the work to AHS for approval and most likely the very expensive AHS will only pay a fraction! The tech said they use to pay for Freon but recently stopped.
I have now realized what a worthless policy AHS has provided me with. I could have saved all the monthly payments over the years and had a tech out within hours and the unit fixed immediately. When this process has come to an end I will spend a great deal of time either praising AHS for doing the right thing or sharing my nightmare that my family of 4 has no AC with temperatures reaching over 100 and I could have no AC for a total of 7 days! UPDATE!! I just received a call from AHS and the coil for my AC is leaking. The ONLY thing they are covering is the coil, labor, the coil removal and $10 a bottle of the Freon.
So years of paying AHS protection from such disasters such as this will cost ME $2,200!!! They have figured out how to pay for nothing of relevance while promoting this feel good, be covered crappy insurance policy. Put your money in a jar use it and pay cash when something breaks and you will get it done faster and at a great discount. They have ripped me off and caused my family 5 days of misery with rude vendors and worthless protection. I have not read 1 positive review yet on AHS that should tell you everything you need to know! I am not going quietly. I will reach out to all the local news channels that have a RIP OFF segment as well as social media, they need to be kicked out of Texas!

I have called 6 times over the last 2 days, as well as leaving 2 voice messages and sending one email. Absolutely dead silence from them. I believe the only reason anyone reached out is because it appears on this site as if they are addressing my problems. That is not the case. Their contractor came out, looked at it and fixed a couple of parts but it still didn't work so they had to go back and replace the whole thing. However, there wasn’t much communication with the contractor. Their customer service was great but they just forgot to call us back to reschedule the appointment to install the replacement parts. So, we had to wait for four days to get one in.
Also, the contractors who were sent out here were on the ball once they started working. They didn’t make a mess and were cordial. I had no problems with the several claims that I submitted with AHS except for one company that I don't wanna see again. They might have charged AHS too much ‘cause they jerry-rigged the part that they put in. I knew that they were gonna buy a microwave and that they charged AHS for them to come out. I let them know I couldn't wait that long so they sent someone out two days after that.
With all the contractors, the actual service was always top-of-the-line. The only thing I worry about with that company is knowledge. They had to send someone out like four times. I also thought they would pay for more than what they did. The item was so big and I pretty much paid the whole bill. They only paid around 1,000 and I paid 5,000 out of pocket. They also don’t cover Freon and stuff like that.

American Home Shield lived up to their contract. We had a leak between two walls and submitting the claim for it over the phone was very easy. R K Plumbing came out, found the leak, and nearly tore the house apart for remediation. They did the repiping on the house besides fixing the leak. R K Plumbing has always been good and they seem to be one of the best contractors of AHS.

Our fridge stopped cooling so we had a claim filed with American Home Shield. Submitting it on the website was self-explanatory. AHS sent Kinston and they were awesome and I would use them again in a heartbeat. They were on time and super professional. They gave me a two-hour window as to when they would be here. I like that because I cannot sit at my house for eight hours. The tech cleaned up any mess that he made before he left, too. Our fridge is working perfectly now. I recommend AHS at all times.

I’ve been renewing with American Home Shield which was the same insurance that the previous owner had, but I put my name. I have had the AC since I bought the house and I called AHS when it was not cooling. The AHS reps handled the issue as they should have and a contractor was out the next day. My wife showed them the unit that was not cooling and they already knew what was going on. They changed the capacitor. They were there for 30 minutes at most and then they were gone. The AC has been fine since they came out and I was satisfied with the experience. We had a condenser go out on our refrigerator, and then we had replaced the capacitor in both of our units. So, for two years of service, that is not bad. AHS is worth it. If something goes out, we call them, and they take care of it.

Our air conditioning was not cooling and I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield. I was surprised as filing a claim was really easy. However, it was frustrating because it took around three days for Armour Corp to come out after the claim was filed. Still, they did a great job. Also, I called the next day to fix my water softener. They sent somebody that was professional and I appreciated that. Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Joshua. We really appreciate you being apart of the AHS family. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

AHS has been the home warranty insurance company for this rental property for over 3 years. The A/C unit experienced potential condensate leakage and it was reported to AHS on 7/26. AHS' contractor, who showed up for the same A/C unit on 6/22, came on 8/3. After a brief diagnostic, he concluded that (1) the platform which the furnace is sitting on is rotten and caused the furnace to tilt and not draining properly; and (2) the front cover of the furnace is missing. The contractor did not mention neither issues on his earlier visit on 6/22.
The weather has been over 100 degrees for over 3 weeks and the tenants (kids and adults) were without A/C for close to 2 weeks. On 8/8, an independent contractor (YWZ) was retained to fix the A/C. After a thorough investigation, YWZ found out that the condensate drain line was plugged; YWZ used pressurized nitrogen gas to blow open the stoppage; and the condensate drainage is now properly discharging. YWZ also indicated that the two openings in the front are original design of the furnace at the time of manufacturing. The tilted platform is caused by the blocked drainage line and is fixed by reinforcing with 4x4 from underneath.
It is clear that AHS' contractor did not perform his due diligent duty. On 8/14, a request for reimbursement of $195 was emailed to AHS. The request was denied because "there was no prior approval" and a "second opinion should have requested" before hiring an independent contractor. AHS always denied the request for second opinion in the past. Now AHS denied the request for reimbursement because of the same reason AHS has been refusing to do. Should AHS' contractor did its due diligent duty to fix the reported A/C issue, the tenants (kids and adults) do not have to suffer the extreme heat from 7/26 to 8/8 (13 days); I don't be forced to spend $195 to fix the issue; and I don't have to experience this frustration with AHS!

I just bought a house and a few months later I started up with American Home Shield. Might I say that was THE WORST MISTAKE EVER... All they’re doing is taking your money and sending out the bottom of the barrel to look at your problem. Notice I said LOOK at the problem, not fix! My AC was working great and then boom, it died! I called AHS and they sent someone out 48 hr later! The guy they sent out had terrible customer service and a terrible attitude!!! He stayed here for every bit of 5 min and said it was only two things wrong and he will tell AHS. 24hr passed and I heard NOTHING, so I call AHS and they said the guy never called and told them anything so AHS called the company and no answer.
72 hr later I get a call saying, "WE CANNOT FIX YOUR AC DUE TO PRE EXISTING PROBLEMS," and read off a list of items that this man did not say anything about to me. I went back and forth with AHS for about two days and NOTHING. I tried to get an expedited second opinion and AHS said since it is not 105 degrees we cannot do that BUT IT'S 95 DEGREES IN MY HOUSE. Still, NO HELP!!! So I canceled my service with them... Why am I paying you all this money a month for you not to help me!!? I hope this company get put out of business... This is nothing but fraud!!!

I had an air conditioner go out most recently and the contractor that American Home Shield sent for that was great. But I had a very bad experience with one of their contractors before and when I do the claim online, the computer system would default to that contractor. So I can’t do claims online. Instead, I would call the claim in manually and that way, I can specify who I want to do the job and then American Home Shield would hire them. And that experience has been great. American Home Shield is doing a much better job on the phones now. Last year, there was typically a 30 to 40 minute wait to talk to somebody but they’ve corrected that.

But wanted me to wait for 24-48 hours for the contractor to contact me for the schedule. I asked if I can look for other licensed plumber to have it fix now since it’s emergency situation but said no I have to wait for 24-48 hours. In my end I contacted the contractor that American Home Shield referred but several times nobody was answering.
I left a voicemail but nobody return my call. I decided to look for other plumber since if I don't do anything the whole house will leak. Ended up the have to replace the water heater pump. The following day the contractor from American Home Shield said they were fully book yesterday and can accommodate me by next week. I said since that was the scenario I ask if I can look for other contractor she said yes and will make a note of it. I called American Home Shield and explained what happened but still wont reimburse me for anything since they didn't authorize me to look for other contractor and the agent who inputted the work order in the first place didst expedite even if I explained that it needs to be fix ASAP because it was leaking already. So in the end I have to shoulder everything. Big scammers!

Credit card immediately charged (only thing they do quickly) and was notified of a contractor to contact to make the repair. Got an appointment for two days later. They came out, identified a short in a wire, jiggled it to get the A/C working and called it a day. Days later, A/C is out again and AHS contracts the same individual to come back out. I have very low expectations at this point. And the most frustrating thing is it’s impossible to communicate with them. No email, no chat, insanely long hold times. A month ago, when it was really hot, our air conditioning went out and Trantel Heating called within 24 hours. The unit went out on a Sunday and we didn't have air for Sunday and Monday when it was one of those 95s. The techs came out on Tuesday, so they were very prompt then. However, the unit had stopped working two weeks ago and the contractor never called or followed up. I called American Home Shield and they said that they would have somebody call within 24 hours but nobody ever called or came out. Then Bob, my husband, got an email saying that there is an appointment for the 19th of September but it's gonna be 75 all week at the end of September. Things happen so I'm not badmouthing anything. Maybe, with the heat that we've had in Oregon, they got busy and our request got off somebody's desk, so we're not mad about it.
I would have called American Home Shield again but then our air conditioning unit started working two days later. I turned it off and then the next day, I turned it on and it clicked on again. So there wasn't any reason to call anymore. The contractor did put a new fuse in a month and a half ago when they came out. We have used American Home Shield before and they have always been great. We had different things that have happened to appliances and we are glad that we have the Home Shield. We have recommended them to a couple of people and they have gotten it.

Our pool pump stopped working and it turned out to be the drive in the motor. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was a very simple process. They had someone out here three hours in the time that I called. The technician who came out was very knowledgeable and friendly. He diagnosed the problem within a matter of minutes and took the time to explain to me what the problem was and what it was gonna take to get it fixed. The technician had to go back and get the new drive system for the pump. Then, he came back the very next morning on time when he said he was gonna show up and he corrected the problem. The whole time frame was about 24 hours from the time that I called to get it corrected so I certainly couldn't be happier with that situation. It was fantastic. Since the repair, we haven't had any issues with the pool pump at all.
Two weeks after the service though, our air conditioner went out. We live in Arizona, so that is a big issue. We struggled a little bit with that one because the air conditioner went out on a Sunday and we couldn't get anybody out. American Home Shield tried everything to get somebody to come out but these air conditioning service companies just don't work on Sundays. We finally got someone out on that Monday and they had the air conditioner up and running in a matter of a very short time. So, I was very happy. American Home Shield will definitely continue to get my business in the future.

Submitting a claim with AHS was very easy. I went into the app on my iPhone and I filled out a very short form that they have on there. It was summertime and It was extremely hot. Plus, I have a senior citizen in my house with dementia. The first contractor that AHS found was gonna take three days to come out. I then called back and told them that I needed somebody quicker. The AHS rep redid my order.
Someone came out the very next morning and fixed the air conditioner. He was nice and he didn’t mind my pit bulls. I asked him if he needed me to do anything and he told me to just point him in the direction. It took him 10 minutes to fix the issue. Then he explained about the air conditioning and said, "These two are older air conditioning." He told me that if money’s tight, I can still keep these, but I'm gonna have to do routine maintenance. Things are gonna break here and there and he told me they can come out and have it fixed. But he suggested that I save up and try to get new systems. He was right and I read about it. They were the original air conditioners from the house, so they’re old and they need to be swapped out.
Other than that, there was an extra charge on my account and I called AHS a week ago, and it’s already gone. I also called them because I had a roof issue with the house. They were very nice to go above and beyond. They explained how house insurance and home warranty work and what to say to the house insurance and how everything should work out. They didn’t need to take all that claim and it wasn’t their service. It was my homeowners’ insurance. But at least when I called my homeowners’ insurance, I knew what I was talking about and it was because of the home warranty. The rep spent 30 minutes on the phone with me talking about repairs and service. I’m really happy with AHS and I’ve recommended them. My contract will be over in September and I’m gonna renew it.

It was really hard to buy groceries or a lot of frozen stuff because I was scared that it would all go bad should the freezer freeze up again and shut down then thaw all the food out.
The service was through Sears and they offered to come from Monday through Friday 9 to 5, which is not always convenient for people who have jobs. They were not willing to work with us on scheduling and they have a random person in some odd state setting up the appointments, so they didn’t really care if they get us in. On the other hand, the first contractor who they sent was more for an appliance specialist and he didn’t specialize in refrigeration. My air conditioning was not working so I called American Home Shield and it took forever for them to answer. When I filed this claim, it was right there, but it took about three days for me to get a call from the repairman. The first time that they were supposed to come, I didn’t have anybody to stay for them to come. I was out of the country so I let them know that I would call to reschedule when I come back. I get my bill taken automatically. I saw that they charged me for them coming over already. I called them and said the repairman have not come over yet so I got charged before they even came. They said that they put it in there that they came. So I rescheduled the appointment and had somebody there. When the repairman came he said it was the generator.
I took about a week or so to receive the part so then I was out of the country again, and I got a text to call them that they got the part. I called them about a week once I came back because I couldn’t call internationally. When I let them know that I was back they already had sent the part back the day before, and they closed the case. The lady said I had to call them and open a new case. I was upset and she said, “Don’t worry. We have a message here that they're waiting to make the part reshipped again.” That was about three weeks ago the last time I spoke to them. Nobody ever called me back and my generator never got fixed. It's aggravating.
I've had AHS for many years that I'm at this house. I use them in every year once or twice and I still pay every month, and they take them automatic. I have to be in a contract for a whole year every year so to not have satisfaction on something that you pay that you don’t even use that much that’s how you know I'm not a happy person. It's not the first time I had a bad experience with American Home Shield and I told them that.

We had a claim put in and AHS refused to pay part of it. It had to do with our swimming pool and the electrical system in it and we assumed that they would pay it off or less the $75. It's complicated by the fact that we are out-of-town, and so we're scrambling to get this pool back up and running because we live on the East Coast and we're currently on the West Coast, in Seattle. You can't have a standing water in the pool and if it doesn’t get fixed, then the pool turns into a swamp pretty quickly, particularly in Florida where you got hot, humid weather.
The contractor AHS sent, Daniel from aquaBright, came out once in Florida on a project and this was the second time that we've used him and he's done a good job. He's very friendly and seemed to know what his business is so we were happy with that part. Up until this time, we've been very satisfied with AHS. We're working with them now to get the payment, but we have been disappointed that the claim has not been covered. Also, we haven't had any meaningful dialogue with them. We got a voicemail when we were sitting at the airport and we didn't have time to sit and digest everything. I'll follow up with AHS because I still don’t really understand why they didn’t cover the claim.

Issue #1: Charged us for service that was never performed, and then took 3 months and multiple phone calls (to multiple people) and multiple emails to get it resolved. The run around to get this resolved was absolutely ridiculous. Issue #2: Sent a contractor to our home who was rude and disrespectful to my family, didn’t fix the issue we called in, broke her shower door (and claimed it wasn’t him) and then left it broken when he left. We complained about him (after the phone-run-around game and being on hold FOREVER) and AHS said that company was now on a do not call list for us… well, they tried to send someone from the same company for another issue a few months later!
Issue #3: PHONE RUN-AROUND/WAITING GAME is insane. Some of their customer service numbers lead to a dead end and literally hang up on you. Others “connect” you to a loud high-pitched ringing noise. And still others you will wait and wait and wait… and you will be ON HOLD FOREVER!!! Issue #4: Our hot water went out and I set up a service request online that same day, the company (from the do not call list) called to set up a time to come by the house. The soonest they could come by to look at it was a week later! I cancelled that (which was another 45 minutes on the phone with AHS)…. and called a local company who showed up within hours, and had it fixed within 24 hours! I have since called and cancelled AHS (another 20 min, and 2 phone numbers later) and feel better already - just hoping they don’t continue to charge my account. I will be monitoring it.

My husband and I recently bought a home in March 2017. AHS came free for a year in case anything went out. My husband passed away in January 2018 which he left behind a 4 month old son, a wife, 2 dogs and a new house. June 2018 my a/c unit went out which I called AHS to set up an appointment since I decided to renew it being a new single mom. I was told I would have someone call me within 24 hrs to set a time and date which I never heard from anyone. I had a friend that was nice enough to come out to see what was wrong which he fixed the problem to help me get by for the summer but he did say my outside was 20 yrs old and shot so he didn’t know how long it would last.
In July 2018 my unit went out again which I called AHS again. This time I got someone to come out the next day. They told AHS that the unit was bad and needed it to be repaired but also needed parts for it. AHS took a week to call me back which I had to call them everyday to get a update on my a/c. They were aware I was a newly widowed with a infant which they didn’t seem to care much. I then requested to speak to a manager but they said it would take 24/48hrs but again never heard back from anyone.
I finally got a call back from AHS which they said they requested a 2nd opinion which now it is going on a week out of our home. Another guy came out which this one said someone poured acid on the unit which is why it is not working. Really you are telling me a widower with a infant that works found acid to mess up the unit. Now going on 2 weeks out of our home AHS finally got back to me and said they will not cover my ac due to the acid. I then request to talk to a manager again which again never heard back from anyone. I called and requested again 4 different times to try to talk to a manager but again no one called me. I never had someone treat me so little and disrespectful like AHS has and did. I have paid every month as well and expected them to fix a broken appliance without the hassle I had to deal with. I canceled and filed a complaint but don’t want anyone else to have to go through what I did.

I have received poor service regarding the replacement of my water heater. This is not the first offense. On 8/11/18 I put in a claim because my water heater went out. AHS sent a tech on 08/14/18 who advised that outside of the cost to buy a water heater and the labor to put it in I would have to pay them an additional $933 of which I was never provided an itemized worksheet. AHS advised that they would not cover these "modifications" and I would have to pay the $933 out of pocket.
I looked over my contract several times to see where it outlines what is covered under water heater and what is not and I feel it is vague on purpose. Me paying almost $1000 for this repair defeats the purpose of the warranty, and I have used AHS more than once before and never paid anything outside of the deductible, but they already took my $125 deductible so I decided to look into it. I asked for a copy of the worksheet by calling AHS and the contractor several times and never received it.
Finally I asked an AHS phone rep now 5 days later to look it up and give me the information over the phone so I could write it down. I consulted 2 additional plumbers who both advised that several of the "modifications" the contractor AHS sent out stated were needed were not needed, but AHS said they don't have any control over what the contractors quote. But wouldn't you think they would try to employ honest people who work in the best interest of the consumer? With that I called and asked if I could employ a contractor of my choosing or get a second opinion. I was told they would not send someone else out, but could cash me out an amount to buy a new water heater and for an estimate of the labor.
What I was not advised is the cashout amount is based on wholesale prices AHS would receive for the unit and labor, so the $527.95 I was offered will just about cover a water heater only. Offering the consumer a wholesale cash out makes no sense seeing as I cannot get those prices. I asked if they could at least send me the water heater that was already ordered so that I could get that price and I was told no. I asked if I could still use their contractor and refuse the "modifications" and I was told no.
Either way I am losing money on a warranty that claims to cover consumers in these times of need. In a prior experience I was given a time window and a date for a contractor to come and repair my air conditioner and no one ever came. I wanted in a 90 something degree house all day with my pet, and took off work for no one to come. I have had a very poor experience. Today I called and waited on hold over 30 minutes, was then transferred and hung up on. AHS really needs to step it up. I will be running to employ a new warranty company who has a better contract and uses more reliable and fair contractors.

The A/C went out on a Thursday and I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) to get it repaired. The contractor arrived Friday and after 3.5 hours of working, he located the issue causing the A/C to sporadically turn on and off and not cool properly as the A/C controller. 5 days later, AHS leaves me a voicemail to notify me they are refusing to repair the A/C system. I immediately called AHS and the rep was unable to explain why the unit will not be repaired under the warranty (my warranty includes Air Conditioning System and Ductwork System coverage). The AHS rep kept reading a scripted statement that the repair is declined because the part does not fall under the warranty contract.
I do not claim to be an HVAC guru, but I am not sure how the controller for the A/C unit is not part of the A/C system. So I asked further questions to try and understand why AHS was refusing to stand behind their contract to cover my A/C system. The AHS rep kept repeating the same exact statement and would not answer my question, so I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager. He responded yet again with the same scripted response and ignored my request to speak to a supervisor. Because this call was not going anywhere, I told him I would call back and try to talk with someone else who would listen to my question and answer it.
I then spoke to 3 more AHS reps, and not a single rep from AHS could explain how the A/C controller is not part of the A/C System. One AHS rep even admitted he did not understand why it was be declined and he was going to get more information and call me back in 15-30 minutes. After 12 hours I decided he had no intent of calling back regarding the issue and reached out to AHS yet again. At this point a fourth AHS rep responded with the same, apparently scripted response, and not a single rep from AHS could provide an explanation for why the A/C controller is not considered part of the A/C system.
So after 5 days of the A/C constantly turning itself on and off and not cooling the house, I had to pay out of pocket to replace my A/C controller because American Home Shield refused to stand behind their warranty. Beware that American Home Shield will do everything possible to get out of standing behind their warranty. If a part is not listed specifically in the fine print of the contract they will refuse to do anything related to that part, regardless if it is part of a larger system. This means that AHS will only cover the 4 or 5 items specifically listed in the fine print and not the system as they advertise to you as a consumer.
I asked for clarification on this and their reps confirmed that if the part is not specifically listed they would not cover it. If you are to purchase a home warranty from AHS, try and get a list of each component in writing prior to agreeing to their contract. I was never given any such list prior to signing their contract and was told by their sales dept when purchasing that it covered the whole 'system' rather than the specific components of what they do and do not cover (this is also how they advertise on their website). Their sales strategy is very deceiving and dishonest.
In summary, it became very obvious to me that American Home Shield does not care about their customers. AHS took 5 days to decide not to fix my Air Conditioning in Georgia in August, so that speaks for itself. Beware that American Home Shield does everything possible to refuse standing behind their warranty, and even their customer service reps are unable to explain why AHS will not uphold their contract.

Said they couldn’t get out there till 8/23 between 8-5 that is more than 24 hrs for service and more than 48 hrs after scheduling and I called 3 AC companies in the area that would get me service next day, AHS Warranty can’t provide service within industry standards. Simple fact poor service. Total time for repair to get started from original call is over 7 days in the middle of summer in Florida, your call. Our swamp cooler had an issue that had something to do with the water going through. Submitting this claim to AHS this time was easy, unlike the previous claims. Before, when there is an issue, it takes forever on the phone. I go on hold and then when I get a person, they just wanna argue with me or with the professional about something that they don't know anything about. It just seems like jumping through hoops every time and I may or may not be covered. I can be on hold for two hours and the professional doesn't get to charge his time for any of that. We've had good contractors every time and I just feel bad for them.
I wish AHS would cut down the red tape of arguing with the professionals. If they didn't think they were the right person to send and that they didn't know what they're talking about, then they shouldn't have sent them to me in the first place. When the professional has to call in, they either need to be talking to someone that knows what they're talking about. It's obvious that they're just looking at a book for the answers. It seems like a ridiculous process.

I have a 3 Zone with three thermostats and one room was not getting air conditioning. There was a thermostat outside the room and I pushed the control all the way down to 66.2 but the room still was not cool. I found out that the thermostat was not hooked up to the air conditioner so I had to go to the other room where there was a thermostat that controlled both bedrooms. I called it in to American Home Shield and the contractors that they sent were very courteous and professional.
The bedroom was large and it had four vents while the other room had two. The contractors recommended that I shut down two vents and now, the other room is much cooler. Since then, it has been great. However, when the jet was cracked in one of the Whirlpool tubs, the contractor that was sent out said that they only cover the machinery. I asked him why they didn't say that because that was exactly how I made the claim. I still haven't found anybody able to replace the jet but other than that, everything else has been fine.

We bought the house March of last year and we signed up for American Home Shield when we got it. I also had AHS for my old house too. We had a plumbing issue and it was easy when I submitted a claim with them online. When the guy came out, he fixed the issue quickly. But he broke one of the bolt covers that was on my toilet and he used my towel too to get up the water. Before, when somebody came out, they brought their own things. Other than that, everything else is working fine. Unexpected things might come up, but I would recommend American Home Shield.

But then it worked for two days and then it went off again. I called AHS again and they resent the contractor. Then he emptied the tank and did some cleaning. The air conditioner was not working after a power outage, but the company that American Home Shield assigned was supposed to show up on a Friday. They called that Thursday and said that the earliest that they would be there is by 2:00. Then they cancelled and said that they could not work on our air conditioner for a minimum of two weeks and had to reschedule some other time. We complained that we were without air for three weeks already and they said if I wanted anything earlier than that, we would have to pay an emergency service call for $200. We called AHS and told them about this and they also checked and saw that the company cancelled on us within less than 24 hours. They went out of their way and fixed that matter for me. They were able to make that person come that Monday.
This air conditioning company had worked on the AC before. Two of their reps came to the house and didn't fix it on the first shot, then one of them said that I needed a new air conditioner for $9,000. On the next visit after we had the power outage, this other guy who came out to finish the job said that the AC was gonna go out soon and we needed a new one and it was $12,000 plus to do. They were really pushing that the AC couldn’t be fixed. And we’re probably gonna have another air conditioner company. Other than that, AHS did a very good job on their end. They took the call, responded real quick, and advocated for us. If we didn’t have them, I would’ve been trampled by that company, for sure. So I’m very happy with their service.
Thanks for providing your feedback Alfonso. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

The air conditioner wasn’t getting below 73 and within a couple of days, a contractor was sent to my home. But this guy at I&M was probably the rudest contractor I ever dealt with. He talked down to me and acted like he knew everything. I was absolutely offended by how he interacted with me. He added two pounds of Freon then I came to find out when the next company came that the unit that didn’t need more Freon. I&M charged me 180 bucks for that too. Our sales rep, Steve, covered the bill with I&M. He also waived the $125 claim fee to make it right, which was appreciated.
The second company removed the Freon that the I&M guy put in erroneously. Then the technician did a much more thorough inspection. He checked everything out and said that the unit was operating correctly. I disagreed with that but after Steve got that company to come out, he left it at that. I had an installation guy come out outside the scope of AHS to see why the air conditioner was still not cooling after two companies told me it was working. So I'm not overly thrilled with American Home Shield and I'm not sure if I’m gonna renew. I'm a Realtor and I do refer American Home Shield to my clients a lot. They haven’t really had complaints but I personally didn't really have a great experience. The main reason I got the warranty was because of the air conditioner. But as it started to act up, I felt like I was getting the runaround.

We're very happy with AHS and we keep paying them our money every year to keep up our subscription. I proceeded to ask her what the pool would cost if I added it to the plan. She asked me what plan, I proceeded to tell her the combo plan that we've been discussing. She asked which deductible, I asked for figures for all 3 deductibles and she seemed to be annoyed and just hung up on me.
If we had been disconnected, I would think she would or someone from the company would call back. She had my phone number. There is no transparency between departments. I was transferred from customer service to Parts only to be transferred back to customer service who then said they could not resolve without Parts. Then I get transferred back to parts and so on. I have literally spent over 10 hours playing this runaround and meanwhile my full time job is interrupted and no oven for over 3 weeks and counting. I was offered two options from AHS. The first being replacement parts that which have an eta of 3-5 weeks just to be shipped to the service contractor or a ridiculous buyout offer.
After being bullied by an 'escalated claims' customer service employee into waiting for the replacement parts, I still have not received authorized confirmation to push the parts order through due to the inability of the Parts department to provide a consistent reply to me, the contracted servicer or customer service. Even after numerous calls with no less than a 30minute wait time for each department, my oven is still no closer to be fixed let alone functioning. Without resolve, the hopes of even receiving a call back are looking grim.
My toddlers, husband, and I can not bear another stove top or microwaved meal. The amount of money we have had to spend on take-out and frozen dinners, and lost food for that matter, plus the service fee, and time lost at work are quite frankly equivalent to what I would spend on a brand new oven! American Home Shield is not worth the money or hassle. I will NEVER renew American Home Shield again or recommend them to anyone! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

AC wasn't working. Called AHS, paid the $70 service fee, waited a week and was never contacted by their contractor. Called AHS back, was told that they were supposed to come out and service the AC unit w/in 72 hours of my first call. Was then given the option to get outside authorization. The AHS contractor couldn't see me for another week, the outside company was able to be there 3 days later. Per the AHS outside auth guidelines, I called AHS while the outside contractor was inspecting the AC for an estimate. After 1/2 hour on hold w/AHS, the technician had to leave for his next appointment. Finally when AHS answered, they initially refused to call the tech about the estimate even though he left me his personal cell #. The tech told me AHS could contact him, but he would not call them back due to their reputation of being difficult. I finally got the rep at AHS to give the tech a call.
Another week goes by with no contact from AHS. I called back, explained the situation and was placed on hold while the AHS rep called the contractor. When the rep came back on the line I was told they got a hold of the tech and to go ahead and schedule the work. I was also given an address where to mail the bill for reimbursement. I paid $2800.00 out of pocket for the replacement of the AC unit and mailed the bill to the address provided, and was told I'd receive a check w/in 7-10 days of receipt of the bill by AHS.
Over a month later, I had not received a check for reimbursement and called AHS. I was told the reimbursement was denied. I had received no communication regarding the denial. Apparently AHS is saying the tech was never spoken with. My response is that I would not have had a $2800 job done without the approval of AHS, and if I had not been authorized, why would I have been given the address where to mail the bill for reimbursement? I am now waiting for AHS to pull the recording of the call where I was given the go-ahead to have the work done.
I am very upset and frightened, since I was under the belief I was being reimbursed, within the month, and now I am afraid I will have to miss a mortgage payment, and I have not even been in my home a year. The stress of potentially not being reimbursed due to an AHS employee error is causing me to lose sleep. I am very disappointed with the accusatory tone I have been given by AHS employees when trying to resolve this issue. I would not have authorized this to be done without being given the go-ahead by AHS. When I was given authorization, I was told I would not receive anything in writing from AHS stating the authorization was granted, only verbal. I would advise anyone dealing with this company to record all calls with them.

Also, it's been really pleasant working with a local and authorized repair service. Overall, I'm happy with AHS and I would recommend them.

Our upstairs AC stopped working at our house in Western NC. Called AHS and asked for repair. They have 2 vendors: Cam Heating and AC is 30 minutes away in Etowah, NC and the other Rabb Heating and AC is 3 hours away in Rock Hill, SC. Rabb did not answer their call. The other vendor could not come out to assess the problem for at least one week. They will not expedite the order unless someone in the home has a health problem or it is 105 degrees outside. 105. Based upon our experience AHS would be fine if you did not need service in any type of a rush. There is a local AC/Heating company but they are not contracted with AHS so they will not reimburse for that expense. We decided to go with the local provider and pay the money to have the AC fixed and will never recommend AHS. Before you purchase a contract from AHS read the reviews from other sites other than their own website.

Very frustrated with AHS and will NO LONGER recommend to friends and family! I live in San Antonio, TX where it is reaching right at 100 degrees. I placed a service call at 8:29 am Sunday and had not yet heard from the A/C company, TexAir as of 9 am Monday morning and when calling the # provided their mailbox was full! When I called AHS to notify them, they said that TexAir would be calling me shortly to schedule a time to come out. It is now after 3 pm and I still have not heard from TexAir and called AHS back. I was again told that TexAir would call me by the end of the day to schedule an appt for tomorrow!!! Already 2 days without AC in Texas!!! I asked AHS if there was another AC company that they contracted within San Antonio that might be able to actually call me and come out today. The answer was yes, BUT - that will be an extra service charge!!! Thank you AHS for the lack of concern and lack of customer service!

It was early June, I called for a garage door service. I was told I will receive a call from the vendor within 24 hrs. I received the call after 48 hrs. The vendor said it will take 10 days until they can send a technician over to fix my garage door. I called back the customer service and asked for another vendor. They said it will be another 24 hrs until they find the new vendor. The story short, it took me 5 days and spending hours on the phone and finally no one was sent over to fix it. One of friends found a temporary solution so I can leave town.
I came back in late July and called Home Shield warranty. The exact same scenario was repeated. Calls after calls and no vendor to come fix the issue for me. The only thing I got over the phone was repeatedly asking me security questions! I have two rentals and paid over $1000 since I started the service and did NOT get ANY service. They have extremely irritating process. I canceled the service on the phone. Now, why I am writing this?! Even though I have canceled the membership, I have been charged $75 for the service that I did not get. A ripoff. Bunch of thieves running this company. Stay away from them.

We had one of AHS' certified technician come out to look at the microwave in April, they found nothing. After continuing to have problems the next technician who looked at it in July discovered wires fused together and the appliance to be a fire hazard. This will be the second time an AHS certified technician either completely missed an issue or performed an installation incorrectly - and additional order, in relation to repairing our A/C unit was only necessary because the technician called to fix the furnace installed wiring incorrectly. Was told the service fee still applied because each case was a separate work order. If you enjoy paying multiple times to get the same issue fixed, AHS is the warranty company for you.

This is the second similar incident with AHS in one year. On June 14th just days before my LO's birthday party our dishwasher broke (Starts, Blinks, and Stops). I submitted a service call online around 6 PM and I couldn't get an response from the contract even by COB next day which was Friday. AHS told me that they couldn't assign a different contractor until they receive a confirmation from contractor that he isn't available. They were closed on Saturday and Sunday. I called AHS on Monday to find a different contractor and no response from them either, apparently there are not many contractors in Raleigh, NC who can work on Samsung Dishwasher. As per AHS customer service person, I had to wait till Wednesday to call so they can reassign me to a different contractor. And I did.
They finally assigned a contractor who works with Sears. I could secure an appointment a week later and took a day off to take care of the dishwasher. Guess what? The guy said that they overbooked him and he can't make it. I had to make another appointment. Long story short today is 08/20 and they still don't know what part would fix the dishwasher so they ordered another part. AHS says that they can't do anything about it. It's been more than 2 months, I paid more than $1200 for my warranty and my service call was $75 and my dishwasher is still not fixed. WORST SERVICE EVER.

Last week our A/C went out on our new home. Wife made a claim with American Home Shield, and they sent out a contracted company. It took almost a week for the A/C company to come out to do the diagnostics, when they did come out they told us the compressor was burnt out and needed to be replaced. This was ok, as this is a part covered by the warranty. The tech said we would submit his report to AHS to get it authorized. Mind you our house is currently really hot inside @ 92 with all the fans on. This was on Thursday early afternoon. Friday mid morning, my wife called AHS to see if it was all approved. They said they still needed a report from the technician.
We explained that they were at the house yesterday to inspect the system, and that the tech said he sent in the report. The representative from AHS called the AC company and for some reason couldn't get the diagnostic report from the company, they told us that the AC company hasn't sent in the report. So hung up with AHS and called the AC company to find out what's going on, and they told me they sent in the diagnostics to AHS already. Called back AHS and they said maybe the report just hadn't been put in the system yet, and to call back later.
We slept uncomfortably in our hot and muggy house with our infant, and called back AHS the next day (Saturday) to make sure the report was with AHS and to get confirmation that they had the diag sheet. They said they still haven't gotten it yet, and the rep reached out to the A/C company again. The A/C company said that they will send in the diag sheet. (We were already under the impression, based on previous conversations that this had already been done.) We were informed by AHS that the A/C company was sending in the sheet and it should all be fine.
We called back the next day Sunday to check status, and AHS still did not have the Diag report. At this point I was very upset and told them if they can't get the required info from one of their contractors, we should use another. I told them I would pay for the additional service fee to get a company over to our house to inspect the A/C and get the AHS a diag sheet so they can approve the repairs, as the company that they originally sent out doesn't seem like they can do this important task. They said they can't do this... I inquired as to why, because it seems that the company they sent is incompetent, and can't even properly fax or email a diagnostic report over to an insurance company in a timely manner.
They just stammered and said that they need the company to send in the diagnostics. At this point I had it with the runaround from someone who couldn't do anything and asked to speak to a supervisor or someone that seemed like they cared. After a 20 min wait, I got on the phone with a supervisor who gave me some BS excuse that maybe the report had been received, but just not entered into the computer. I said, "Great, can you please check on this to see if that is the case." She said she couldn't do that, and I would need to wait till Monday to check. I said, "Fine, what time will you call me back on Monday to follow-up on this."
She said she can't do this, which of course I asked her why not. She had no answer... So I gave her a small lecture on taking responsibility for her job, and ownership in problems, and that if a supervisor cannot follow through with a return call an upset client, come renewal time, I will remember it. I guess this put a little fire under her and she promised to check-up on the issue and call me on Monday when she gets into work.
As of right now, this has been a nightmare... and there is no end in sight. Hopefully AHS gets the Diag sheet and calls me back like promised. I'm not hopeful... if they call back like they said they would I will still be open to renewing the policy with them once it expires (as we have done the same on the insurance on the last house we owned)... But if AHS treats its customers like this, I might look for another one.

AHS was recommended to me by a friend who has had all positive experiences, but unfortunately, my very first experience was horrible. We just bought a new home and I wanted to use my warranty to have re-key the locks since dozens of contractors were working in the home prior to purchase. I called, and the person who helped me was very nice, and she scheduled the locksmith for me, and said I'd hear from them within 24 hours. I called the locksmith directly after not hearing from them after 26 hours, and the person was very rude, and dismissive and told me that they still had time to get back to me so I needed to wait.
So, I waited for a total of 45 hours, and when I called AHS, I was told that they have 48 hours to get back to me. I reminded her that at this point, 48 hours would be about 1AM on a Saturday, to which she responded "48 business hours," implying that Saturday didn't count. At that point, I just asked her to cancel the claim and I'd pay out of pocket to have it done myself, which I did. What a great way to start off with your first attempt to submit a claim. I definitely won't be renewing!

I had a problem with the central heating, and heating and air were very vital parts of the summer that I needed. I filed the claim with AHS over the phone and they sent somebody out to diagnose the problem. They don’t give you much freon and the customer has to pay an absurd amount for it. They pay $10 a pound and I had to pay almost $400 for freon. It just added to my frustration.
Once they told me I had to pay $400. I asked how much they would give me to go and find somebody to do it privately. It took another week for them to get back with me and say they would give me an X amount of dollars. I could not find anybody to do it any cheaper and it took me a couple of days to try somebody. Then they called the people to come out and make the repairs. The first person who came out was young, and he didn’t quite fix the issue. I called and they sent a more experienced technician who fixed it in a minute, but I had to wait another couple of days. Overall, from start to finish, the process was too long.

The company that I had to deal with and was ultimately waiting for the service was horrible. The contractor, Temprite, diagnosed that our AC needed a compressor. It was only supposed to take seven days to get the part. By the time that I decided to replace the whole unit, they still hadn’t had the part which was two weeks out. Those were the hottest and most humid days of the summer and I got the feeling that Temprite didn’t care. It got to the point where I found my own company to give me a quote and get the job done as the heat was unbearable. I decided to cut my losses and got the reimbursement from American Home Shield. Then I canceled my contract since I’m not looking into them anymore in the future.
For the most part, the AHS reps were good. However, I had a terrible experience talking to them. They didn’t know what was going on at all. They were trying to tell me what my contract covered and at that point, I already knew what was wrong. When I waited for the part needed, they gave me a runaround so I hung up on them. He was very personable and he told me what he was doing. After the repair the pump and the hoses were working good.
However, when we had problems with the air conditioning. American Home Shield sent out a contractor that couldn't figure out what was wrong. They came back and forth nine times and had to get somebody else that knew more about it. That was kinda aggravating because it was cold and then the heating wasn’t working but they eventually got it taken care of. I'm glad I have American Home Shield. It worked a day and it went on again. It took a while to get the contractor back and I had to engage American Home Shield. The contractor finally came back out. They said it was the drain pump that was bad then I have not heard again from the contractor. I’ve been calling American Home Shield and they’ve been trying to get the contractor to call me back. It was a good thing the contractor mentioned to me that there was something that was on the recoil on the washer.
That prompted me to call the manufacturer and the manufacturer fixed the washer, which seems to work fine now. I just needed to get back to American Home Shield to have my service fee refunded. The experience wasn’t entirely pleasant and it’s not American Home Shield’s fault. It's just the contractor that they’ve used. It shouldn’t take three weeks to go get a part. I've been with AHS for almost 12 years now and I’ve had situations where they've used other contractors that seemed a little bit more with it. They may need to find ways to qualify their contractor that they use unless their business process is not fixed now. Nevertheless, I'd recommend American Home Shield and I’m happy with them.

The technician that came out was very sarcastic. He wouldn’t even look inside the refrigerator to see what was going on. He just said that my gasket was torn. He put new gaskets in but that didn’t do any good. When I had to have him come back out again, I called AHS and they set up everything.
I called the company to make sure of the time that they were gonna be coming out. I told them that I didn’t want that service guy to come back out. They were gonna send out a manager and they said if they couldn’t find anything wrong, they were gonna charge me $90. I said I already paid the $75. I then called AHS and they had gotten information that what I said was correct.
I was put in touch with Appliance Connection, who I’ve been happy with. Appliance Connection came out and they ordered parts which couldn’t be found. It was not my problem whether he makes money or not. That was AHS' deal. The tech was able to temporarily fix the garbage disposal and it was a matter of me turning the flywheel on and resetting it. I had to do it again and again and I went through that for about two more months until it finally quit.
I called AHS over the phone and the rep let me vent and get over my frustrations in having to do it twice. I ended up paying my deductible twice and I shouldn't have had to do that. A different contractor came out the second time and he was good. He took care of my problem and everything was wonderful. We used to go to our homeowner’s insurance or call independent people in our neighborhood to come and look at a situation and tell us what was wrong, but AHS has been a blessing for us because we have people come and tell us what we need. I've used them more than several times and I've always had a good experience with the people they sent and I’ve always been happy when I speak to their representatives.
When we had a leak coming from the upstairs restroom down through our pocket door in the downstairs bedroom, we called American Home Shield to get somebody to come out and look to see exactly where the leak was coming from and if it needed to be repaired. We are in an older house so, there have been delays because of work that we had to have done. It ended up that there was no leak found and our tub overflowed through the overflow thing. I would imagine my granddaughter overran the tub and didn't tell us that she had overrun it.
The technician that they sent out was very nice and smart. He was very polite, courteous and one of the best we've had since we've been in the area. They are the best people to come out and service us the plumbing. However, I still have a problem with the fact that the hole is still there. When the gentleman left, he said he was going to put in a work order to get somebody come up and rough it back out. He offered to set it back up there for me but I asked him not to set it back and he probably taped it up and then we had another leak from that same area before somebody got out here. The spot is still there and the piece of the ceiling that the technician sawed is still sitting there.
However, nobody came. I called AHS back twice and their people said that they needed to get the dimensions of the opening from the technician that came out. When they called the office a couple of times, either the office was closed or the gentleman that has the information was on a call. I’m gonna call AHS back today to see what the disposition of this would be, whether or not they were able to get the dimensions from him and when we would get somebody out to fill in the rough. It was surprising to me because generally when they say we are gonna hear from someone within 24 hours, we hear from someone. Other than that, I've been very pleased with the service we have received from American Home Shield.

I decided to buy the policy on the recommendation of one of my husband's co-workers who had purchased it and used it several times. I had been thinking about it because we have an older home and some very old systems then we had to replace the stove on a moment's notice. So I thought we oughta do it. I asked my husband's co-worker if American Home Shield had really great service and if it was not a hassle. He said no and that it had been perfect. And I would agree. I submitted a claim online when our whole-house air conditioning unit had a breakdown. The site was easy to use and I heard back almost immediately. I got the confirmation email from American Home Shield then I heard from the contractor right away.
Unfortunately, it was a Thursday then and the contractor wasn't gonna be able to get anybody out until Monday. And having a broken AC in North Carolina in July was not comfortable. At first, I was a little concerned. I had already paid the fee and if I called my regular folks, then I was gonna end up paying twice. But when I went back and asked American Home Shield about it, they accommodated everything. I didn't even have to call them. I did a chat online and I said that it was great that the contractor got back to me so quickly but then I asked if there was a minimum standard for how soon they would get somebody out to a customer's house, not just how soon they responded. I told the rep the situation and she said, "Let me see what I can do." She came back and told me that she had sent another service provider in our area and that they could be off tomorrow. They were so gracious about switching that up and that was really nice. It was fantastic.
I ended up reaching out because I hadn't heard about scheduling. I needed to know when somebody was gonna be here for someone to be at the house. When the guy came out and looked at it, he said that he knew exactly what the issue was and that he had brought a part on the truck. 10 minutes later, he was gone and the AC was fixed. It was amazing. I was super happy.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online when my air conditioner motor gave out. I always like talking to a real person, but, for that, since it was the dead of summer, I was very impressed with how quickly the people that they gave me responded back to me. However, I only had a problem because I wound up thinking somebody had fixed it but they had not. They did not come out because I canceled them before they would come out. One of my kids who knew something about it had come in and he told me what I just needed to do. I thought it was just the breaker switch, but it turned out that it was because the motor’s within burned out and so it kept going off.
When I called AHS back, I wanted the same people that they had originally given me because they had called up right away, were very friendly, and were going to come out. I thought I had gotten them, but I didn’t think the girl understood me and ended up sending someone else who turned out to be just as good. The only thing was, it took the tech two weeks to get the parts fixed because it was a very old unit. The initial response was excellent, but the follow up was not as good. The company was fine, but it was an awfully long time to wait for two weeks in the summer for a part to come.
We wound up having to buy two small window units for our bedrooms. We’ve been fine sleeping at night. We haven’t been around during the day but nobody feels it’s working. I was told I was going to have to pay $450 for the freon but they never charged me for it. I would’ve been happy. The motor thing is working but the air is not cool. I've had AHS for 15 years and some visits are more frustrating than the others but within the past four or five problems that I’ve had, they’ve responded very well. So, overall, of the insurances I’ve used, house-wise, this is fine.

One to see if this was covered (Yes) and that I have to use their contractor. I then called back and was told the same thing by another lady and she was rude and hung up on me. Called back again and was on hold for over 20 minutes. The last call I was told again the same thing but to call back tomorrow and ask for the outside approval department.
American Home Shield really needs to take a hard look at their customer service policy and remember that without customers buying their policy they will not be in business. Looking on the internet for best home warranty for 2018 American Home Shield is not even in the top 10. Good luck to all that buy or has a American Home Shield Warranty. If you are looking to purchase a warranty please research what other companies have to offer. I did not have a choice. Service providers will not return calls to us or AHS. AHS is unable to provide competent service providers that speak English and that will complete the work. The air conditioner wasn’t turning on so we did not have any cool air coming out of it. I went online to file a claim and navigating the American Home Shield website was fine. However, I didn’t like that it was a Tuesday before the tech could come out when I had put in the request on a Saturday. It’s close to 100 degrees in South Carolina and that really was not great. Yet when the techs came out, they were quick and friendly. They found the issue within 20 minutes and had me back up and running. I even tried to pay them and they told me that’s not the way it works. It was an excellent experience and I find having the AHS warranty to be valuable. I didn’t know what the issue could have been and it was really simple for me to be able to go online and request someone to come out. Now, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to three of my friends.

Having a warranty takes the worry out of me having to fix things and figure out how to do things. I normally submit claims online and the AHS website is easy but it needs some parts for notes because I can only check a box. As far as the contractors, it's been really quick for them to come out. The turnaround time has been usually within 24 hours. This last one was Harvey's Plumbing for some leaks that I had, and they were amazing. The guy was very professional and he explained everything before he did anything and it went well.

We ended up having to call because nobody was ever assigned to our account. So, we had to call twice, and then they finally got somebody assigned to us. The AHS representatives were fine. Also, the contractors were great. It took three days to get scheduled and then they had to order a part, but they did a good job. Everything is working fine now. We're happy with our American Home Shield coverage. We've not had any problems, and we've utilized it twice this year, so we're very thankful for it. The contractor came out in a timely fashion and had it been much hotter in the house, we would have called somebody else. The first time, the guy was really honest with me and the people who hadn't changed the filters in my rental property told me they had. I called them back after I was positive that the filter was the problem and that the units have been kept clean. They replaced a motor and cleaned the compressor out really good and all seems to be well. Now the renters stopped complaining about it. I submitted the claim first and then waited. It would’ve been out of pocket if I did it the other way. Only $10 worth of Freon was covered and say, I need to replace my unit and it takes 10 pounds of Freon to replace the unit, that’s between $600 and a $1,000 that I had to pay on top of the deductible.
I've been with AHS for six years and I almost dropped them about a few years ago because their customer service was awful. Their computer system wasn’t updated like if get a second opinion on other things then that fee stayed in the system and I couldn’t use a live version so I had to call and then I had to stay on hold for two and a half hours. However, they’ve remedied that and it looks like they’ve changed companies that manage that for them because when I call, I talk to somebody within about 15 minutes and online, it’s automatic. I just play through it, and it’s really quick. They improved now.

We’ve had AHS for 14 years and I did have an issue with a garage that they would not recover. They would not repair the garage springs, which I remember when we first signed up for them, they covered that. However, every year, they do an auto-renewal, then they take out stuff that they cover. I’m not really good at following up, so I kind of just do the auto-renewal. So, that was kind of a bummer, but other than that, we haven’t really had any issues and I would refer them. They’re very efficient as far as getting back to you or scheduling. They use good contractors, and they’re pretty reasonable.

Then, the contractor came, checked the AC, and everything went fine. It turned out that the remote needed batteries and the problem had nothing to do with the actual AC. Other than that, when calling AHS's customer service, getting hold of someone has been very tough and would take an hour. Plus, their response has been slow and canceling requests with them has been a tough job. It would be better if they improve on the response time and the customer service. When I bought my old house in Chicago in ’95, we had an American Home Shield warranty and we hated it. Every contractor we called was incompetent and we had three or four calls in the course of the year. We did not renew it and I had nothing nice to say about American Home Shield for 20 years. So, when it was proposed when we bought this house that we take one of these warranties, I said to our Realtor, “I don't know that this is gonna be any good.” And she said to not worry because Long Realty has a very good relationship here in Tucson with American Home Shield and that if AHS doesn’t take good care of us, she can make a phone call to help. So far, I haven't needed to call in the marines and the service has been fine.
We've had Bluepoint Pool Service came twice. One time was when a part broke in the pool system. There were some gears that they replaced and everything worked fine. The second time they came out was a month ago when we noticed that the level of the pool was three or four inches below normal. My first fear was that the pool sprang a leak and that it was gonna cost us a fortune. The guy came out and he was there for five minutes. He said to my wife that our pool cleaning guy flipped the lever in order to facilitate the cleaning and forgot to put it back when he was done. The tech flipped the lever and did not charge us. And that fixed the problem.
Then, our refrigerator has an icemaker that stopped working more than a month ago. We thought the line had frozen which is a common problem for this particular model. We did all the things online like turn things on and off, push reset buttons, and defrost the water filter which freezes over. We were able to get drinking water but we were unable to get the icemaker to work again. So, we placed the call to AHS and a guy came out. He said we needed new parts and that he would order it.
Then, I got an email that they got the part and told me to call for an appointment. My wife did and they came out at 9 o’clock the following morning. The guy said he needed to cut off the water to the refrigerator but he couldn't find how to do that. So, we texted our seller who told us it's behind the refrigerator. The tech said he couldn't move the refrigerator himself and that I would have to call back to American Home Shield and ask for another appointment. My wife texted our seller about that and he said the fridge is not hard to move and gave us the name of somebody else. The icemaker still doesn't work and we want it fixed. So, we either get the tech to bring one of his compatriots along, if he only need two people to move the fridge, or get somebody else out.

The people at American Home Shield are courteous and they're prompt in what they do. I'm also able to handle everything electronically. We rarely have to actually call them. My concerns with American Home Shield is that sometimes, they would recommend someone who won't come out as far as where we live. We live in a gray area, in the exurbs outside of Columbia and in between cities. I would get an email that says the vendor is going to come but the vendor is thinking that they're not gonna come. So a day will pass and I would contact the vendor then the vendor would tell me they don’t come out that far. Then another day or so would pass before I can get American Home Shield back in the game.
If I had my way, before they would send an email and tell me who's coming, they should screen that individual to see if they are actually going to come. American Home Shield doesn't have to vet the entire database but maybe they could flag my account and make sure vendors come out that far. Aside from my primary residence, I've also used American Home Shield on my rental properties and I've never had problems on those because they're all in town. It's only because of where we live that we even have the other minor inconvenience.
The outcome of our last call was satisfactory though. Rapp’s Heating and Air Conditioning has been out to the house on more than one occasion to do work for us. This time, it was a false alarm but they came prepared to do what they needed to do. The equipment was working as designed and they really didn’t have to do anything this last time other than educate me.

The work was fine, but they were trying to patch a system that was 25 years old, out of code, and out of compliance. They patched it last time and it didn’t last three months. American Home Shield does everything they can to make it difficult for you to get service, get parts, replacements, etc. They leave you on hold (their website doesn't permit service for many questions), you have to chase after them to get every step of a repair/replacement process done, and the customer service agents are simply powerless to resolve any problem. In short, what they promise on a website is, in practice, severely hindered by their institutional resistance to do anything other than bill your credit card each month. It's like dealing with the DMV. Good luck.

If zero stars was an option, that is what I would pick. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company. We have wasted money with them for years, and we are currently in a battle with them over our refrigerator that we have never had serviced for 20 years. The company they sent out claims that some wires in the freezer had been cut by the previous repair. Funny thing is we have never had any repairs done to it, which was bought new at Sears in 1998. Here in lies the problem. They use the shadiest service companies. No telling who we have let into our house, what their background is.
So we tell them we think that the company they sent actually cut the wires in question when we were not in the room, and then they are trying to work us out of more money to pay for something that wouldn't be covered. So we complain to AHS, ask for a different company to come out. However, they won't switch companies for us. We looked at reviews for the company they sent and it was nothing but negative review after negative review. This is who they do business with, frauds and crooks. Which makes AHS the same thing. AHS looks for ways to avoid handling your claim. We are definitely canceling them.

We turned the AC off and the guys came in, checked it and said that a pump or something had gone off. And then, it wasn't cooling in a span of one month. So ultimately, it had to get it replaced because it was very old. I called American Home Shield and tried to do the internet but then, I had to know my item number or my member number so I started to log it in and then I just called. Their reps were at times responsive. They gave me a name and then I didn't hear from that person for a day or two that I had to chase them down. This gentleman came out and he was nice but we didn't get results from him. He said that it was the sensor, so we needed to order it. That took a week to get the sensor in then he came out and put them in. But he said that the ice maker wouldn’t start up right away and that we needed to wait about 24 hours to see if it works or not. In 24 hours, nothing had happened. So we called them again and they sent him back out. This time he said we needed to replace the ice maker and that took close to another week. We were about to leave town at the time and we were worried that this wasn’t gonna be fixed. We would be gone for two weeks, so we told them that. They rushed a little bit and came out with an ice maker. Then the same guy put that in and nothing happened.
He then said that the sensors were bad. But those were the ones he put in a week earlier. He said that we’d have to order those again, so we called the company and complained that he was saying it was gonna be a while before those came in. They expedited something and said he’d go get them the next morning. When we woke up in the morning, our ice maker bucket was full. It was working but he didn’t know that. He said the sensors were bad again, so we weren’t terribly enthused by his competence. Other than that, we've been with AHS for 10 years now and we’ve been satisfied with them most of the time. Our experience in submitting claims with them has been pretty good, too. When we had a problem, they got somebody out there and we’ve been pleased with that.

The warranty has saved me lots of money. When the heater was leaking, I called the claims department and they set me up for an appointment. Putting the claim in was real easy and they were really good to me. The contractors were really good too. They came out one day and when the heater was still having issues, they came back the next day. They did a really good job on it.

I'm waiting for a call for my AC and still nobody has. This is a different house because I own rentals. The heat there don't match. One's a different size than the other and I had somebody come out that said they don't go together and the heat is not even hooked up. Then when American Home Shield sent someone out, he said they're the same and everything was fine, which is a bunch of crap. AHS sent the exact, same people out, so it's some kind of a second opinion there and it has been a mess. AHS just brushes off the issue. Right now the air is working, but the furnace isn't even hooked up. I'm waiting to see what happens this next time. Yesterday, I put a call in to one of my rentals I'm working on because it's not getting cool in there. They should have contacted me by now, but still haven't.
