I would never use American Home Shield again. They are horrible. When my entire HVAC system went out, they first sent somebody who told us we needed to replace the whole system. The following week, we called American Home Shield three times and, finally, they believed that we couldn't get a hold of the contractor. They tried to get a hold of them as well but they couldn't. Another week had gone by. It’s the beginning of July and we're in a heatwave. The rep at AHS said they're gonna drop the contractor and then send somebody else out.
They sent somebody else out and they went through the whole thing. They gave a whole estimate, which turned out to be a completely sub par unit. When I went online, it got nothing but one-star reviews. Everyone said within two years the unit will break. So I asked the person, "What if I don't want that unit?" That person said that I could bring my own person. My issue has been going on for four weeks and they are just telling me now that I could do it.
So I did it and it was an $8,500 job, and AHS gave me $2,800 for it. The work was done over three weeks ago but they have not acknowledged they even received the work order from me. Furthermore, I had to fight for it because they wanted to give me $2,000 originally. I didn’t even get the top-of-the-line HVAC. I just wanted something that wouldn’t break down in two years. And when I went online and called three different HVAC people to ask what they think about the unit, the one the contractor wants us to put in there. They said they wouldn't touch it.
Now, my washing machine went out and I'm paying out of pocket because I don’t even want to go through AHS. It would probably take two months before they give me a little bit of money. Furthermore, I don’t wanna spend 40 minutes on hold waiting to find out that nobody knows if it’s in process. It’s aggravating. The email says as soon as you get all your documentation in, this check will be issued but I still haven’t seen anything or heard from them. AHS is giving you not even close to what you’re paying, and you gotta jump through hoops for all of it. And it took over a month and a half to get the HVAC done. If somebody would ask if they should get insurance, I would say not to get it from AHS. Just pay out of pocket because, by the time you’re done, you wanna pull your hair out of your head.

My air conditioner unit stopped working so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it over the phone and it was somewhat easy to do. However, it did not readily present itself to speak to a live representative. It would be better to talk to a real live person instead of going through an automated system. I would be able to get it through a lot quicker. Nevertheless, everything was perfect. The guy who came out addressed the problem. The first guy came in and out and said he needed to do a new unit. He also told me the amount if I wanted him to do the entire unit. I said yes and he said he would come out in two days and he did it.
After the repair, the AC unit has been so much better. I love Landmark, the contractor I've used, because I’ve had numerous poor experiences with them but working with this and getting it done on the first try was great. The one thing I really appreciated was the fact that they didn’t try to band-aid the situation. They went for the fix. I've also recommended American Home Shield to my dad. I told him about my experience and that he should have this home warranty.

My sink kept backing up and I could not get it to drain at all. I called AHS and they sent a plumbing company out. The tech said that they couldn't do anything because there was plastic piping where the disposal was. That's a rule of AHS which is peculiar because other places don't have that rule. I called them back and said I wanted somebody out here that could do something. They sent another plumber out, AMPM, and the tech was very nice. He put a snake in the sink and it drained, and it seemed to be okay.
However, I just had somebody else leave here because it started to back up again a few days later. Now, it looks like there are some big things that have to be done. I made the claim over the phone and I don't know if I have more to do. I paid what AHS said I had to pay and I haven't heard from them since, except when they texted or emailed me to give an opinion of what my service was. But they said they would not charge me for the second person, so I appreciate that.
Hello, Joan. Unfortunately, that ground level is needed in order to properly clear the drain. We are glad to know the 2nd opinion company was able to initially get that cleared and apologize that you are having some other issues as well. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to further discuss your service request.

The main drain was backing up into the lower level bathroom and laundry room. I called it in with American Home Shield and they sent a guy out who snaked it and got it cleared. It was a clog in the main drain away from the house. While he was here, there was a problem with the toilet leaking and he fixed that too and did a good job with it. Every time I've ever dealt with AHS, they have been professional. Right away within 5-10 minutes after I got off the phone, I got the work order. They text me with all the information and the information of the contractor that would be coming out. Then that the contractor would be contacting me in a certain amount of time.
I've been with American Home Shield for over 11 years and they've always taken care of me no matter what the problem was. They make sure their customer service is exceptional but their follow-up is what really is above and beyond. They either call directly or text me and they are following up constantly to make sure that everything is still okay. Also, my interaction with the contractors has always been exceptional. There was one issue earlier in the year with a contractor that didn't do what they were supposed to do and American Home Shield followed that up and corrected it by sending out another technician to fix the problem. Plus, they assured me that the technicians that they sent that I had a problem with would never be sent out again. It just blew my mind. In fact, I've recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people. As long as I am a homeowner, I'll have American Home Shield because they've always exceeded all my expectations.

The faucet that's attached to the shower head and the tube that connects the water to the head broke. Also, the hot water knob on my sink wouldn’t turn off completely, so there’s a constant drip. I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone because I have to always request for them to connect me with a company that does weekend visits or after 4:00 o’clock visits. The contractor that they sent this time knew what he was doing. He got the sink with the hot water portion of it cleaned and got that done quickly. Then he had to reschedule to come out to fix the one in the shower but he did it quickly too and now everything is good.
In the past though, when I file a claim on the phone, AHS automatically assigns me to someone and I always had difficulty being reassigned to another company if they can’t do the timeframe that I needed. I had to have the first company cancel it and they have to contact AHS to tell them why they’re canceling it. It was not an easy switch and I usually had to call different people to get a new company to come out. It would have been nice if I could just call AHS back and they could just switch it. But everything else has been pretty good and I would definitely recommend AHS. I’ve had other warranty companies over the years and AHS has been the best so far.

I’ve always had warranties but I didn’t like what have had for a few years so I looked around to see what else there was around online. I did a bunch of comparisons and then, I decided to go with American Home Shield even though they were not the valued price offered in the market. They're larger and they would have a big enough network of repair affiliates that they can handle anything really quickly. I went online, indicated what I needed, then Home Shield connected me up with the repair people right away who then came out and fixed my washing machine. But they had to come a few times. They had to get parts and brush things, and it was another people they needed to replace after they came back out and fixed the part. The guy realized there were more faulty parts but they came and did it.

My experience with American Home Shield was wonderful. We had an AC issue, but before I called American Home Shield, I had contacted somebody else and they came. They cleaned up my AC and they told me that I didn't have enough Freon. We could have called them back and do $100 of Freon in there, but we said that we have American Home Shield so we called them.
The contractor that came out said that they don't pay for Freon. However, we were not aware of that, so it ended up costing $340, with $100 coming here and the $200 Freon. I wish they told us before that they don't cover Freon. I also wish they had different prices or deductible for each item. If you have a lot of issues in the house and you have to pay $100, it adds up. And for the little, minor things like a microwave or stove, if I have to pay $100 just to fix the handle, it's expensive.
The contractors sent for the AC were wonderful and knowledgeable though. They called me back right away, the same day that I had submitted an email and they said they were gonna stop by between 2:00 and 5:00, and they came at around 4:00, so it was perfect. I usually submit my claims with American Home Shield online and then they would contact me within so many hours. It's quick, but I would call the next time. That would be better so that if I have any questions, I could ask them.

Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was pretty easy. Also, AHS got Protect-Air out here for my AC right away. The contractor explained what the problem was, told me several solutions to fix it and then let me make my choice.

Each time I ask for a service, it's so many days later that a schedule is given. That doesn't really do anything for me. When my refrigerator broke, American Home Shield gave me a 10-day window. But you can't live without a refrigerator for 10 days. I had to get a new refrigerator. Another issue is that the contractors don't really care. They can keep coming to fix stuff temporarily. It's not like when you pay them that they really try to fix it. My AC broke in the beginning of July and the window I was given was three days. I managed to survive because I have another AC in one bedroom. But the contractor came to fix the AC three times. They stayed for 10 minutes and it didn't work. So I called again on a Friday and AHS gave me a date of Wednesday for the contractor to come fix the AC for the fourth time in one month.
But it was too much to be without an AC. I just called a company myself on a Saturday. They came and fixed it, and it still works. But they told me that it would break again and that they can't guarantee when but that I really needed a new AC. So I purchased a new AC. So what's my benefit in keeping American Home Shield? Zero. It's like a scam. I have nothing against the people who work there. But I think their policy is unreasonable. I had to beg for a speedier schedule for an AC in Florida in the summer. For a refrigerator, I had to fight for everything.

We have two AC units and the upstairs one was not cooling down. We submitted the claim American Home Shield online via their webpage. I tried calling, but I can't get through. There was a long wait time, so I just did the online. This is the third time I've had to call them regarding the AC units and each time was via the internet. The contractors came out. The capacitor blew up, so they had to replace it. It was what we were told and it was a quick fix. All the contractors were great, very knowledgeable, and helpful.
The first issue was the downstairs unit. There was some water leaking from it, which turned out to be condensation that was leaking and dripping on top of a unit and on the floor. The contractors put some insulated sealant on it, but within a week or so, there was some more condensation leaking, so they came back out. Ever since, there hasn’t been an issue. The next time was the upstairs unit. The contractor said that there was probably a power surge to our house and that caused it to explode.
We've had a good experience with American Home Shield, although it's difficult to reach somebody on the phone. However, it's easy enough to do it online and within a couple of minutes, I get a very quick response from the company. It's been the same company each time that came out and usually, within a minute or so, I get an email or a text message from them saying that they’ll be contacting us shortly. I would prefer doing it that way. I would recommend American Home Shield.

My air conditioning wasn't getting cold. It had a lot of condensation and the pipe was frozen. I called the claim in with AHS and they sent out a tech from Superior Energy. He was great and efficient. He handled the problem, took pictures, and showed me what was going on. He made sure I was understanding what he saw and showed me the frozen pipe. I would’ve never saw that because it was outside and he had to open up something to show me. He also wound up putting Freon in there and I needed it for two units. However, I thought the service call took care of the price of the Freon, but it turned out that I would only get $10 per unit and I would have to pay the rest. I had a credit, so that part didn’t bother me. But I still had to come out my pocket with $100 something.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for a while now and this whole policy changed so much. I'm already paying the service fee then I’m putting more money out of my pocket and I don't understand why. Before, I paid the service call and whatever the problem was, they would fix it. If they couldn’t fix it, they would replace it. Also, their price went up. It’s $500 something a year now and they went from $50 for a service call to $75.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I submit my American Home Shield claims online and for the most part, the site is fine but I don’t like that I can't add anything to the status of any request. A service that I had about 10 months ago was a complete disaster and American Home Shield’s backend failed. I called for a dishwasher repair. Then, somebody called, scheduled an appointment, came out, took a look at the dishwasher, did whatever he could do then but he had to order a part and he was gonna come back later to install it. A few weeks had gone by and finally, the part was back ordered. Then the company that originally came out to my house had dispatched all of their own repair people to some job in another state and they were shutting their office down for about three months. So, they had to farm out the job to another company.
When I finally heard from this other company, they wanted to schedule an appointment within the next couple of days but due to some work that I had, I couldn’t accommodate. I countered with a couple of days the following week but they couldn’t accommodate that and their main reasoning was that they were “doing a favor for Home Shield” as opposed to getting my request taken care of. The woman I was speaking to then told me that she would look at their schedule and that she would give me a call back but that was the last I ever heard from them. A few different times I reinstated the requests, once through the phone snd once through the web and every time, the status of the request went back to “Could not contact client,” which was not true. I had voiced that to American Home Shield but it got nowhere. I got tired of dealing with it that I essentially finished the repair job myself.
I've had some other dealings with AHS. I had an issue with my air conditioner, my heater and a recent issue with the garbage disposal and there were some collateral damage from doing the repair with the AC but they fixed that a couple of days later and all of those things went fine. Whatever company AHS farmed it out to reached out, scheduled an appointment, came out, did the work, and everybody was happy. But that particular one with the dishwasher was disappointing with the fact that AHS didn’t do any follow-up even after I expressed my displeasure with how it was going. It was a job that never really got officially completed. The coverage for the cost though is almost worth the cost of a headache every once in a while because it had saved me a truckload of money.

We've had a good experience submitting claims with AHS. We usually do it online and their website is easy to navigate. When the ice cube maker stopped working and we filed a claim, the contractor was out here in a day or two. Then they ordered a part, came back promptly and replaced it. The refrigerator has been good ever since. We also had to have the furnace with a bad switch fixed in April. The contractor came out that same day and fixed it so we had heat. And then for the garage door, the wires were frayed in the wall. The garage door company came out the next day and fixed it.
Then for the most recent issue we've had, we have hot water during the summertime. The pipes are in the attic trapped with hot air and so, the water never cooled down in the pipes. We could run it, but it would take about 10 minutes to get cool water which is if you’re conserving your water, that’s kind of a waste. The turnaround time with this claim was a bit longer because AHS didn’t know who to contact. I didn’t know what to describe the issue as well and they didn’t know either. AHS doesn't have the categories to select from, but they tried to find somebody. That was when we finally decided to submit it as a faucet issue to get somebody to come out here. The contractor did well, though. He said we can blow in more insolation.
We've had a very good experience with AHS for the little things we’ve had them fixed and they’ve addressed the issues. I’ve been a homeowner for a while and have American Home Shield warranty on the house that I just sold to make sure that the buyers don't come after me. AHS's purpose is there and I’ve been happy with their service so far.

I’ve called AHS about three different problems. One was a leak in the wall. We’re in a very rural location and it took them a little while, four days specifically, to find a plumber. I just took care of the leak up until that point. When they came out, they fixed it. Then I called them one time with an air conditioning unit that was not cooling and they charged it with Freon. Unfortunately, it’s an older unit so the Freon cost me considerable bit. I paid the $100 plus another $120 to get some Freon. Then I had another AC unit that caused a problem and that took a while. I was without my second air conditioner for nine weeks, during the hottest period in Alabama. It also has multiple problems. First the coil was bad and they ordered a coil unit. When they finally came in to replace it and they took the coil out, the heat exchanger was damaged so they had to replace the entire unit.
Because I have an elderly person that lives in the home, they authorized money to get a portable unit to cool off her area. Fortunately, we didn’t need it because the contractor was able to get that unit in very quickly after they did the authorization, and that was within 3 days. He even came out on Saturday to finish up which was surprising. We were grateful for that.
American Home Shield did a great job. I hear a lot of negative things out there but I think people just expect them to be able to respond instantly and always to their satisfaction and that’s not how insurance policies work that I’m familiar with. I would recommend them. With a house that was built in 1974, it was a good idea for us. My AC unit was not something that I expected to go out because this was a newer one on the house, so I’m very thankful that I got AHS.

The person who did the work then called me and let me know when he would be coming out. So, he kept me informed as far as his schedules so it would work out for our schedule, too. When he came out, he took the dishwasher apart and he had to vacuum out all the nasty stuff that was in there. He did a very good job. He's very professional, too. The last time I had an AC issue, it was with a different company and they seemed confident. The tech hung out for a minute to make sure everything was working okay and I had another problem caused by airflow that was resolved by replacing my filter. Usually, the techs run away fast when they’re done. Other than that, I pay a $100 every time and it’s the same people I get, so I don’t have to pay for really expensive repairs out of pocket. My air handler is under the house and it’s vibrating the floor. It’s not so bad but it needs to be fixed. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield online and the website was good. However, the first contractor that they sent told me that he was too old to crawl under the house, which I was pissed off about because I took off work. Then he had to transfer the ticket to another company and they told me that I had to get a new access door on the side of my house. So, it never got resolved. My friend’s dad, who’s a retired HVAC, came out and he said that there was no reason that the contractor couldn’t fix it like it was and that I didn’t need to get an access door for them to repair what was needed to be repaired.
I noticed that AHS hadn’t charged me the deductible, so I wasn’t too worried about it but then the charge went through. I have to call back the people who came out here and find out if they’re gonna send somebody back out here to fix it and who doesn’t mind crawling under the house. I called American Home Shield back and they sent the guys out who did a nitrogen pressure test on it but it wasn't accurate. They then said that the condenser unit needed to be replaced because the leak was in the condenser. The contractor was speedy but they weren’t super thorough. They wanted to replace the whole unit, so I contacted somebody else, have them come out and double-check everything, and they found the leak exactly where it was. We were able to repair it for way cheaper than replacing the outside unit, even cheaper than the claim price. The claim would have paid out $1,500, but I still would have had to pay about $280.

A guy came out the day after that and started to work but one of the parts he needed wasn't available so he scheduled to come back another day to finish. Everything was done within like a week's time.

We had a problem with the hot water heater so we submitted a claim to AHS over the phone. They recommended that we had somebody come in and look at the water damage. When the contractor called, he said I was the elderly couple and I never thought of myself as elderly. I’m in my 60s and my husband’s 65 and he shouldn’t use words with elderly. But the service provided by the contractor was good and he came like five minutes to fix it.

My water heater burst just after I got back from vacation. I called my warranty company to have it replaced. They assigned me a contractor to come out and assess the problem. They gave him 24 hours to call me or get in touch with me. I finally got ahold of him 4 days later and he was supposed to come out and check out my water heater according to my home warranty program. He never showed up and my home warranty program told me that they were going to have to try and find me another contractor and it was going to be a couple more days.
Well anybody knows that not having hot water in the house is just not good and for some reason they did not think it was an urgent issue so I went ahead and purchased my own water heater and installed it myself and they got away with not having to pay with anything. I'm very disappointed the money I spent for my home warranty. It's like I just threw it away. American Home Shield really is not a very good company not to mention that I was on hold for hours and it got to be annoying. Anyway I would just like to thank American Home Shield for a job well done and I am really being sarcastic.

AHS had someone come out to look at our oven. The tech said it needed a new control panel. We never heard anything else. I followed up and was told by the appliance repair company that my claim was rejected. I called AHS since they never informed me of anything and was told my claim was not rejected and they never heard back from the appliance company. They sent the appliance company back out to look at a thing that was already diagnosed. I had to take off work for a second time to accommodate this. THEN they went ahead and rejected my claim. Only they called and said it was already rejected previously BEFORE the guy came out the second time (directly contradicting what they said last time).
They said bugs broke my oven. Not software bugs. Literal bugs. Pest damage is in their exclusions clause. I just bought this house and had it fumigated. The entire point of having a home warranty is to warrant against exactly this type of scenario where you are buying a house and you have no idea what could be going on with the appliances. Nothing was found to be amiss in the home inspection with the oven, of course.
If there is ANY chance there could be bugs found in the house you are purchasing or if you are buying an older house (which will definitely have bugs somewhere), read the exclusions carefully and try to find a home warranty that doesn't have this exclusion. AHS will be useless to you if they find a dead bug. OR see if the seller can just credit you the cost of the home warranty instead so that you can fix the issues yourself. If I had had the cost of the premium plus the $75 service visit fee on hand, I could have just purchased a new oven and I wouldn't have had to go through all this.
Updated on 8/28/2018: I reviewed this company a few weeks ago on this site. They responded publicly to me saying that are sorry I had a bad experience and they would reach out to me. They did send me an email. I responded to that email the same day. It has been 2 weeks and I have heard nothing further from them. Don't be fooled by their responses on this website. They are not actually helping people. They are just trying to save their own reputation by doing damage control.

POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS BEWARE - FRAUDULENT COMPANY THAT ABUSES THE HOME WARRANTY SYSTEM AND RIPS OFF CUSTOMERS. This company needs to be put out of business for their fraudulent activity and abuse of the home warranty program. Two month ago opened a AC Service Claim due to air not blowing cold. AHS contracted with a AC Repair company AC Repair Company #1 Reference #: ** on 06/11/18 (3 weeks later AHS no longer was associated with AC Repair Company #1) to fix the issue. The AC Repair Company #1 identified leak in line, however was instructed by AHS to take the "Cheap solution to attempt to fix problem". They proceeding based on AHS direction. Three weeks later air in home blowing warm air again because the leak was not fixed.
After reopening the claim of a leak in the AC system, AHS informed me that they were no longer doing business with AC Repair Company #1, they sent out AC Repair Company #2 Reference #: ** 07/18/18 to again fix the issue. AC Repair Company #2 sent out a complete imbecile that wrote on report everything was fine. (I called out a third party AC company to fill up coolant as home was too hot - Tucson 110 degrees and also have a newborn daughter). A month goes by and Leak still exist and AC is blowing hot again. Then Call AHS AGAIN to have Repair Company #2 come back to fix issue. This time they identify leak and tell me for them to fix it they will need $650+ up front because they will not fix leak unless they can fill up coolant.
Did my best to explain to AC Repair Company #2 on their prior visit on 6/11/2018 the line was full and that their AC tech should have found the leak as it was clear there was a leak and if he had fixed it then there would not be a need to refill the coolant. AHS still refused to cover the AC coolant changes and claim that this is my responsibility even though since 6/11/2018 I have followed every process to ensure the issue gets resolved so I would not be in this situation now. AHS still refused to do anything. After two months and close to 20+ hours on the phone with AHS customer service agent (idiots), we still haven't gotten our AC issues fixed. We will let the warranty expire next year. I have filed a claim with the BBB. For a second time - This company needs to be put out of business for their fraudulent activity and abuse of the home warranty program.

I have been dealing with (AHS) since May 2018. This is when I first reported my unit was not cooling. I paid the service fee they requested me to pay and a few days later D&D Plumbing from Texarkana, TX was sent out to fix my unit. They came to the conclusion that the unit needed to be replaced so they ordered the unit and it took about a week for it to come in so after that they installed the unit but ever since they installed the unit I have had nothing but problems with it not cooling. I called AHS to let them know the unit was not cooling and they called D&D Plumbing to let them know the unit was not cooling and after several days D&D called to let me know what day and time they would be coming out to look at the unit so I took off work so I could be home and of course they didn't come so that was one of many work days I missed waiting on this horrible company.
To make a long story short my air conditioner is still not working and I have been living in 100 degree temp since May and nobody seems to care. I have called AHS multiple times begging and pleading for help, "Please send another vendor so I can get some relief" and they either hang up on you or make promises and never keep them. I paid my service fee of 109.00 and 160.00 for coolant and they draft my bank acct for 50.00 each month. My carpet is totally ruined because JEFF from D&D Plumbing ruined something inside. Water is pouring from the unit and has ruined two floors and of course I told AHS and they said it wasn't their problem. It was D&D Plumbing.
My entire summer has been ruined from burning up all summer by AHS because they sent these horrible people to my house. I am going to seek legal advice because I don't know what else to do because AHS definitely don't care about their customers and D&D Plumbing should be shut down. Oh and yes I have paid out of pocket service fees to air conditioner companies just to find out they won't touch the unit because of the horrible job D&D Plumbing did. No one should be treated the way AHS has treated me. Yes I blame them because they are the ones that sent these horrible people to my house. Someone please help!!!

I obtained a Home Warranty for the sole purpose of covering repairs on major appliances. Unfortunately, my air conditioning went out over two weeks ago. I put in a service request on July 25th. The first technician came out on that following Sunday. He stated that it was in need of a new coil and drip pan. However, I needed to expand my closet and I would need to pay that cost. This did not make sense to me since my closet is larger than most other homes. I tried for two days to get a hold of the contractor.
After several failed attempts I reached out to AHS. The representative tried and could not reach them either. I also did research on this company and they have a 1.5 star with the same complaint of being unreachable. When the AHS could not reach the technician he approved that I contact my own technician. He said with record heat and an elderly person living with me this was a matter of health and safety and would expedite this for us. I had a technician out the very next day ready to do the repairs. He contacted AHS as advised. AHS told him they needed to speak with a Supervisor and would get back to him. An hour later I received an email from AHS with another number for a technician.
When I reached out to AHS I was told my technician was too much and they had the right to get a second opinion. So here comes Superior sent by AHS for a third inspection. Mind you, this is after hours of being on hold with AHS and hours missed at work to meet with these technicians. I was told by AHS second technician that I needed to replace an unbroken furnace for $2500 in order for him to replace the coil and drip pan. I questioned AHS on this and was first told it was not covered. After requesting to speak with a Supervisor I received a return call and was told the repairs would be covered and I would just have to pay $500 for ductwork and a couple of other things. I was told by, Patricia in the Authorization Department, the parts were ordered and would arrive at the technician's shop on 08/08.
I left a few messages for Kevin, a supervisor, asking for an ETA, he never called me back. So today I call and after battling with a Rep in the Authorization Dept at AHS, I am told the parts are on back order and there is no ETA. He refused to let me speak with anyone with authority. He stated he was unable to transfer me to a manager. Two weeks later I am without air conditioning in my home. It has been averaging 105 degrees outside and my home has been 90 degrees inside with fans. I have my 82 year old mother living with me and this has taken a toll on her. A week ago I requested a cash in lieu thinking maybe this would speed up the process. I was told it takes about 3 days to get an offer. Here it is a week later and now today's rep says it takes 1 week and 1 day to get a cash offer. Give me break. This has been a complete nightmare.
Good morning Kimberly,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service that you have experienced and your request for the CIL. I see that an offer was made to you on 08/09. I would be glad to speak with you and get this resolved.

My old washing machine had a water leak. I set up a service appointment with AHS and the repairman came a couple of days later. He said it would be over $200 to fix the machine. AHS suggested a replacement instead. They gave me a choice of 2 GE machines and I chose Model #GTW490HCJ4WS. The machine was delivered and installed on 4-30-18. When I washed a few loads of clothes it would vibrate and move. The thumping with the spin did not sound normal so I called AHS to find out what to do.
Originally they were going to have a repairman come out for $125 service call. When I reminded them this machine was under warranty they gave me the number to GE and an appointment was set up with Appliance Central. Two repairmen came out on 8-7 and after checking it out told me it wasn't filling up with water like it should. Then checking it out further told me it needed a motherboard. A brand new machine and already needed parts. They also told me they've had many calls on this particular model. If I had known AHS was offering machines with such a terrible track record I would have bought one that I would have researched first. This machine is a real disappointment. And now I'm without a washer for at least 2 weeks. Very dissatisfied customer.

This company sucks. My AC is broken, it’s now August, has been broke since late June. They want to repair the coil on a 20 yr old unit that takes fluid that is outlawed so I would have to pay 1300 out of my pocket. I have a neighbor that does HVAC he said he could replace the whole unit for 1500 to 2000. (That’s the cost of the repair.) But AHS will not cash me out UNLESS I pay 10,000 to their contractor for a new one and I would have to wait 30 day after it’s installed to see if they give me $900 toward the replacement. What a joke. Just keep in mind they are for profit business, and when it comes down to being there for you, they are not. But they will gladly take your money.
Good morning Ms. Gobel,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address the repairs and cash out request to have the system replaced.

If I could give a minus rating it would be -5 stars. Go to their website and try to find a place where you can communicate to the company. A complaint in writing about one of their vendors... "exactly". You will not find one because they don't want to hear them most likely. Then try calling their customer service, and ask for a supervisor or ask where you can write a complaint to about their vendor they sent to your home, "exactly" nobody to talk to and if you ask they say it will take 24-48 hours before anybody calls you back. Ask the customer service rep you talk to on the phone about how you can make a complaint and they direct you to the AHS website but is unable to tell you where on the website to do that. And there isn't actually a place on their website anyway.
AHS uses a very unprofessional company to do its repairs in Palm Springs CA, Appliance Repair Experts. Far from being professional, their technicians walked into my house covered in grease and walked up/down my staircase leaving the grease on my walls. Oh, they ordered the wrong part, of course they had the correct model number of the appliance. Still not repaired, going on 3 weeks. Call and complain to that contracted company that AHS uses because you couldn't complain to the company you pay for your warranty and you will probably think you are talking to the technician's sister who isn't really concerned about anything.

I had to cancel three times though because it’s in the second home and I wasn’t there, but when I called their office, they answered. The guy who came was dressed nicely and he had an assistant with him that was in training. He was the cleanest worker I’ve ever had. My first experience with American Home Shield was for our refrigerator and it was just textbook. However, our AC issue is taking a long time and summer is halfway over already. When we turned the AC on this summer, it wasn’t working so we called American Home Shield. They sent someone out who told them that they were not gonna do anything. So, I called again and the rep told me that she’ll send out a second opinion.
Nelson Air came out and based on their findings, AHS said they were was gonna fix the AC which happened seven weeks ago. They were having a discrepancy with Nelson Air about ordering an evap coil. Finally, they relented and they ordered one. I’m still waiting to hear from Nelson Air on when they’re gonna install it. But for the most part, my wife and I are extremely happy that we decided to go with AHS. We have the security of knowing that everything in our house is under warranty if something goes bad. We’re gonna be with them for life. I have recommended AHS to my mom and other people. I just wish that our AC claim wouldn’t take so long.

We have two air conditioner units, an upstairs and downstairs unit, and the one upstairs would not cool at all; the unit outside was not kicking on. The air handler upstairs would run and blow and blow and blow, and it’s never cooling. And so American Home Shield's contractor came out and looked at it. The guy said he could not tell us what was wrong with it because everything appeared fine. He added two pounds of Freon and he ran water through the upstairs loop just to clear the drain for the system.
At first, for around three days, everything worked fine. And then it would stop again and not run. But that would be on a Friday. So in order to get service back out and make a schedule, it was gonna be Monday before anybody can come back out. Well, because I wasn’t gonna live in heat, I went outside and slapped the side of the air conditioner and it starts running. I kinda had an idea what’s wrong with it. There’s a relay in there that runs operator on. It wasn’t operating and it’s like I would hear it click, but it wouldn’t kick on. So I just smack the side of it, and it kicked on and would run. I had to do that about three times, always in the late evening. It has ran normal all day and then when we go to bed and it’s blowing hot air, it just wasn’t going well. Now, it’s been fine for the last 30 days.
American Home Shield offered that if we are to have a problem, we should let them know and then they’ll get an emergency call placed and get it taken care of. The rep was over the top friendly telling me everything but I knew that there was nothing they were going to be able to do because I can’t make the problem happen. It’s no use in telling them to come and repair it when they’re gonna be like, “Okay, what’s wrong?” I’m like, “It won’t start.” But then they can get it to start and then it runs fine.

When I put in the first one, American Home Shield pushed me over to an operator which I didn’t strictly care for as I don’t see why I couldn’t put all claims in at the same place. But their service works and they get their repairs down at a reasonable cost. They’re not always the fastest but they get the job done at the end of the day.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone for an air conditioning unit. The response time was very good considering the timing when we had the 100-degree weather. However, the first guy didn't fix it right, so the second person had to come out. When the second person came out, he put some Freon in it. At that time, the new buyer moved in and had gone to New York for a week for her business. When she came back, the air conditioner wasn't working. The Freon had all leaked out, so she was really upset.
I told them we needed to stay with American Home Shield, but they chose somebody else and I couldn't call AHS back to fix what didn't get fixed. It was a little disappointing because it was the downstairs air conditioning unit and it was a big house, so she was fit to be tied because it was 107 degrees and we couldn't get anybody back to fix it. When we had to call for the third time, they weren't able to get out for about three days, so she had called the one that had taken over the service.
I have used American Home Shield, except for two occasions in five or seven years, and I've only called American Home Shield because I bought it for myself when I bought a new home. I also got my daughter a new home and we pay month-to-month, so I really love American Home Shield. Other than the fact that I only call using American Home Shield, what happened was just an isolated thing. In the past, they've been fabulous to work with, although the guys were really busy and all overworked, but it won't change the fact that I'll be calling American Home Shield again every time or recommending them. Their rep, Mary, is the main reason I started using American Home Shield. She takes care of things, but she happened to be on vacation that week when that one issue happened. Mary is wonderful whenever I call her and she's right on it usually within a couple of hours.

I have a super terrible experience with American Home Shield. Half of our house went out of power. We have lived for three years in this house and that was the first time it happened. The electric guy came four days later after we called and reported, so there were two kid’s bedrooms without power, as well as the cooking gas, the bathroom, and the patio. The guy said there was a short in the house, and he needed to find out where it was. So, he started opening up outlets and fixed it. But after one hour, they put together his instruments and he said he had to leave, and just did the partial.
The kid’s bedrooms were still out of power, and he said they were unfixable yet and that he needed more hours to fix that. He needed to get approval for more hours to work to get the job done, so I said, “Okay, perfect." He promised me he would come back. I even talked to American Home Shield and they said, “As soon as we get the report, we will get in more hours so we can continue to fix it.” After that, however, nobody was coming. I called back and they said that electric reported that it’s overloaded. I said that if it is overloaded, why would he start working on the house if it was not covered by their policy? Why did he fix for one hour, different outlets and stuff, and I don’t know if he broke it more?
They then said that they will send a second opinion. The second guy came, and I explained to him the situation. But the second opinion went, “No, there is a short in the bedroom. We will bring new lighting for you.” He also said, “But I cannot patch anything because somebody else already started fixing it. I don’t know whether he messed it up or he fixed it, so I can’t touch anything.” He further said, “If he starts working, he has to come and finish it. That’s the policy.” I said that was fine.
After that, American Home Shield said that the second opinion said it was overloaded too, so they were not gonna cover. But, I said that the second guy told me a totally different thing. Also, AHS told me I have to pay $100 for the second opinion. I said, “But he did not patch anything. He just showed up. He just heard from me somebody else already started working in the house." He said, "I cannot touch anything because he already started.” I also asked AHS to send me the report copy, but they never sent any. So, after 10 days with no electricity, where my kids were sleeping under the candlelight, I hired some private electrician, and he said, “There is a short at the house and that’s nothing to do with overloading.” He eventually fixed it up, and I paid from my pocket. I also went and reported to the Better Business Bureau on them. But they lied to them, and they told their story.
We are sorry to hear about this unpleasant experience regarding your services. We would like to contact you to follow up regarding this matter. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will be in contact with you soon to further assist.
Thanks!

I got a hold of American Home Shield’s claims department and I explained to the rep that my wife is seven months pregnant and she was irritated. AHS had a good team that took care of the claim in a very timely manner. They sent out Coaches HVAC to my house the next day and the contractors were very professional. They talked to me when they came back down from the roof and told me what was going on. They tried to troubleshoot it and did everything they could. The coolant and everything inside of the AC needed to be replaced, and they got everything up and running. A person came out to fix my refrigerator the first time and blew out the back of it ‘cause they said all it needed was to have the coil cleaned. I was working at that time at the kitchen table and 45 minutes after they left, I went to drink water and there was water all over my floor. When I looked in the back, the pipeline going to my icemaker was leaking. I called the refrigerator kid and he said that he's out of town and can't come back. I called American Home Shield, and they said that they have to allow him to come back out. They put in another order and they were supposed to come out the next day so I didn’t go to work but they never contacted me.
I called American Home Shield and finally, they allowed me to get another refrigerator guy to come out. I called the refrigerator guy and he came out Friday morning because he was booked. He came out and looked at the refrigerator too because after the guy who cleaned out the coils left, the refrigerator was still doing the same thing. The other refrigerator guy informed me that it was actually the field and the refrigerator wasn’t any good anymore. He even told me that the guy who cleaned the coils did not do his job.
He said that he put a temperature gauge inside my refrigerator to see what it was doing ‘cause it was going from cold to not so cold and then it only make a few pieces of ice. He added that it was not making any ice was because it's not cold enough to make ice. He also told me the pipe in the back had to be fixed by a plumber and he couldn’t touch that so I put a bowl under it. Once he did his determination, he got back on the phone with American Home Shield and got everything authorized.
I called American Home Shield back and they said that they’d send out a plumber. The plumber went here and fixed it properly. He was really good. We got the order to do a new refrigerator. The original people I got to contact on Monday sent me an email saying that they tried to contact me but they didn’t get a response. I sent them back an email and told them that they never contacted me. Still, I got a phone call from them on Tuesday and they said they were calling to set up my appointment. I said to them that I already had to go elsewhere and they were supposed to come back out last Thursday and fix it but nobody bothered to call me. The lady thanked me and just hung up the phone. No apology, no nothing.
When I went on Google to look at the first refrigerator person, their rating was 1.9. I let American Home Shield know about it and they said that they don’t really ever use that to which I said that they might wanna consider it because that company was terrible. Even in the comments, people were saying that the company really doesn’t wanna work. American Home Shield should try to choose the people that should come out to fix things in the house and research who they're gonna contract with because they're gonna be taking care of their customers.
In terms of AHS' customer service, it depends on who I'll get on the phone. The first person I talked to just put another order, but the last lady I talked to went above and beyond. She got where I could go outside and get an authorization. AHS could draft to their customer service individual to put some training involved in and maybe thinking more on what if it was the kind of situation. They definitely have staff that will do that and those that will just follow a protocol.
Overall, American Home Shield is great because they let the other refrigerator company come out and their technician really assessed my refrigerator. It just took a little bit longer and I had to be a little bit more patient, but they followed through and get everything done. I now have a new refrigerator and the people that came out to put in the new refrigerator was fantastic and very professional.

We typically submit claims with American Home Shield over the phone and the reps have been generally friendly. When the capacitor of the AC went out, submitting the claim was a lot better than it used to be. The hold time was less and the response and service were faster, and that made a big difference. I try to use the same contractors that have come out and that I have liked. The contractor, Right Appliance, has always been excellent. Silver Dollar was the contractor that came out for my claim the AC. We’ve used them before and they've been very good. But I had a bad experience with a plumber that was awful that had come out at one point. Nevertheless, it is easy to request for a certain contractor as long as they service the area. I've recommended American Home Shield.

He got the job done and left without any delays. It was a good experience.

We thought that the house was cooling, but apparently, it wasn't cooling down as much. We weren't sure if the reason was the extreme heat or something was slowing down. We saw some similarities to the AC problem in my grandmother’s house before and we were wondering if something went out, which is what we were looking into.
We submitted a claim to AHS online and it was easy. But it was hard getting in contact with the contractor at first. AHS said they would have someone call me so it was a hit or miss thing for a minute. But the contractor who showed up was good. He looked at everything and thoroughly explained what he was looking at. He told us that everything looked good and that it was just hot outside. He did a good job and the AC has been fine since then. So, I haven’t had any repairs done by them but I was satisfied with the experience. I didn’t even use the warranty but everything has been all right. I feel like if something would have been wrong, I’m sure they would have taken care of it. And I can't say that they took care of me but they definitely sent somebody out and that has given me the opportunity to have things looked at, so I can’t complain.

We've had AHS for years and we've always had good service with them taking care of stuff when we had things happen. They have always been professional. We've had issues with some of the contractors that they've sent out, but they've rectified those real quick. Instead of having to pay out-of-pocket for the covered items, it's a lot cheaper for them to pay the service call and have them pay the rest. We have a plumbing leak that hasn't been fixed yet, and AHS finally found a plumber that has ordered parts that they need to fix it. Overall we're pleased with the service that we've had with American Home Shield. This one is just taking a little bit longer to do because of the extent of trying to find the leak in the slab.

My AC unit would work one day and not work the other. It would blow air, but it would be warm one minute and it would get cold. I submitted a claim online with AHS and it was easy. About two days later, the contractor contacted me and when the first guy came out, he told me to call back if the issue keeps arising. It kept arising, so I called back and the second tech pretty much told me that he couldn't find out what's wrong with it. Right now, I'm still having the same issue and I've just been told there's nothing they can do. And I just have to wait for it to blow up before I get a new one.

My air conditioner wasn't working so I filed a claim with AHS online and got quick response. There was a phone number to call, so I was able to call and customize my visit for my schedule. The contractors were courteous and kind. One had been out one-time before and worked on my heater because I didn't have a heater when it was cold, and I didn't have air conditioning when it was warm. He remembered my dogs and he was a real friendly and very knowledgeable guy. He was very professional and not rude or condescending to the new person he was training.
They have done excellent repairs but it would be nice to be able to upgrade, downgrade or change things with the service package that I have online, like have a pick and choose menu. I'm a long time user of the service and I want to be able to be flexible at times. The website could be upgraded for the current standards of the consumer. Nonetheless, it's great that AHS is a service that's available.

They were knowledgeable and proficient, and I've had no issues with the refrigerator since the repair.

American Home Shield is great and I've had no issues with them. However, there are issues in getting the scheduling done with some of the companies that they use. The first time, something went wrong with the heat and the contractor was able to come out within a couple of days. This time, the company doesn’t work on weekends so it took them 12 days before they were able to come out for my AC that went out completely. The only thing that they had available was one day that I obviously couldn’t take off of work so I had to wait ‘til the following week for them to be able to come out.
The AC worked good for about 20 something days and then it went out again. I called them because I couldn’t understand what the issue was and they said it was some kind of safety feature, but I couldn’t understand if the company knew that was an issue already and why they didn’t deal with that when they put the AC in. Despite that, repairs were done the same day. Overall, I've gotten my money’s worth out of American Home Shield so I'm gonna continue having a contract with them.

The washing machine makes a ridiculous racket in the spin cycle. I submitted my claim for it online to American Home Shield and Dill Appliance Repair is the contracting company. They never answer their phone and I had to leave a message or shoot them an e-mail or text. However, their guys who had been out here have been very nice and pleasant. They came in, worked on the machine and left. They replaced the tub bearings but that didn’t seem to make any difference and then it started leaking water. They came back out to look at it and said that the leaking water was a soap dispenser drain but it seems to be draining gallons of water each time we try to use it. So now, they’re simply waiting on a part for the soap dispenser piece. Yesterday, I've also put something on their website that the noise on the spin cycle was continuing to the point we can’t use the washing machine now.
I’m not real happy with the washer repair that seems to be taking way too long and I don’t think they’re fixing it, but that’s in motion. It’s been going on for weeks with the delays and how long the parts would take them to get to arrive and so forth. However, we’ve had other positive experiences with American Home Shield. Only this particular washing machine incident that was not done well. We had the garage door opener repaired and air conditioning work done and that’s all been good. I was talking to somebody yesterday and generally, having American Home Shield is a good deal.

We filed our electrical claim over the phone and the representatives were fine. American Home Shield found Washington Electric and the tech called me to schedule an appointment. However, they weren't willing to work with us on the time so I had to call American Home Shield back. I tried to get them to get us somebody else and they said they couldn’t, so I tried to get this guy to come out. However, we waited and waited and he never called back.
Then after the fourth phone call that we made to American Home Shield, I told them that the contractor still hasn’t come back and we had no one out here to look at the issue. They finally got another contractor, which was Ampak. They came out and they were really good. The tech was very thorough as he looked at everything. He did what needed to be done and he explained everything to us. He was great and the service was amazing. It's just that we had made multiple phone calls to American Home Shield and it took over a month to get somebody out here to work on our claim.

The first time I called American Home Shield for a contractor to come out to do the refrigerator, the company that came out claimed they replaced the refrigerator parts but the refrigerator was doing the exact thing. I realized that they never checked to see that the reason why the refrigerator wasn’t getting cold was because of the thermostat and there was ice build-up in the back. I called back American Home Shield, they told me that I had to pay $100 again although it was about the same claim. I was screaming at them so much and told them that I'm through with them and that I'm going to another company. But they said that they'll send somebody out.
The second guy came out and he was from Masterpro. I told him that based on what I’ve seen, the problem was the thermostat. When he pulled the thing out, it was all ice back there. He said that the guy should’ve checked it. I’ve raised so much hell about that company and I even called them. I was really frustrated with them and let them know that they got paid for doing absolutely nothing. This particular incident put a ruffle in AHS' service. They kept asking me to pay $100. I won't keep paying $100 for the same appliances but they said I had to. Nevertheless, I find that having the warranty on the house very valuable with the last company that came out. They were so good at what they did and if I have to have somebody else come out to my house, I would request them.

I’m in the process of selling my home so I cranked the air conditioning down and I had to call Greenway, the contractor, back out. I never kept the house that cool and I realized that there was only so much that a certain air conditioner can do in the house when you run them on and on. I asked for a senior tech and they were able to explain everything. They shot the ducts with infrared and showed me one was blowing 58 degrees and one was blowing just exactly what they said. There was about 7 degrees difference for both of the ceilings, and explained that if I don’t air condition the upstairs, it’s a lot harder on the downstairs unit.
They wrote it up as an error because the thermostat was reading air, so I thought it was warm than it actually was. They came out previously and they fixed it the first time around. They did a great job doing that. I have never had a warranty before and it’s really a good thing. I’ve either tried to fix things myself or paid for it out of pocket. American Home Shield was very good and the warranty people were excellent. With the experiences I’ve had with AHS, I would recommend them.

I have two claims with American Home Shield at the same time right now. I started with the refrigerator freezer and that one hasn’t been resolved completely. The person came out right away, but the freezer is still acting up and I have to deal with the door not having a perfect seal. I’m duct taping the freezer door and they’re coming back out. I was initially delighted with that claim, but I wasn’t so delighted with what happened. When the person came out on the 30th, I asked how long it was good for ‘cause we paid a $100. He said that it was good for 90 days. However, the freezer started heating up again. I called the company and they said that they don't come back out and that I had to call AHS. I didn’t appreciate that. It was a follow-up and I have to spend more time doing this.
When I first talked to them yesterday, Thursday, they said they could come out by Monday, but the first time they could come out was the next day. They had contacted me on a Friday at 5:00 and told me they could be here by Monday. When I called, I asked what their next available date was and the rep said Monday. By the time I called back, just two hours later, she said she couldn’t commit until Tuesday. It was a redo of a mistake they made, so it was a little frustrating.
I also said to them that the guy told me it's a bolt that's loosening up and it makes the door not attached really well to the tracking thing which is making the seal open. I said that if that’s the case, I really don’t want them coming and having this happen three times. Every time that happens and if I can’t catch it, I can lose my freezer and all the food, and it overheats the refrigerator. I have to figure out how to empty everything out and if the whole thing goes bad, then I have to get a new one. The person is supposed to come out on Monday at 8:00 and I hope they get there on time ‘cause I’m going to have a colonoscopy at 4:00. I don’t really want the freezer people to come out three times. I’m giving them a second chance to fix it, but if it happens a third time, then I will call AHS.
I also have the second claim because something is wrong with my stove. The gas is too high and I get a torch instead of a flame. It’s torching up. A guy said he’s gonna come out today at 3:00 and hopefully, he will come out at 3:00 because I have to leave at 5:00. I used to be with AHS and I stopped about eight years ago because of what’s happening right now with the first person. I had more plumbing problems then and the person was really rude about it and said that I wasn't a paid client. He said that he could come out but he couldn't give me his first appointment. He had to come out only if he could fit me in somewhere. I didn’t care how he was getting paid and I felt that feeling again when I called the refrigerator people. They didn’t care that the person had to come out.
I had been an AHS person for 15 years or so and about six months after I canceled my AHS eight years ago, my water heater went out and I had to pay a $1,000 for that. And even after that, I still wasn’t willing to go to AHS because of the experience that I had had with the plumber was so demeaning and I’m still a paid client. Other than that, I like the fact that there’s an online option now which they did not have before. I messed up and I forgot my password, but they were helpful with that.

I had to call Express 11 times to have them come out and it was frustrating. I was not very happy with their service and still not extremely happy with my air conditioning. They could not find the parts that the AC needed, so they put a brand new coolant on it which is high efficiency. However, my old unit outside is not high efficiency so they don’t seem to work well together. I set my upstairs AC on 72 and it takes my house until 1 o’clock in the morning to get down close to that. The contractor kept trying to sell me an outside unit but I told them, “Isn’t that why I have insurance with American Home Shield?” Then the guy told me that AHS was not gonna cover the AC because it’s repairable and that if I wanted it to cool better, I needed to replace the unit outside.
I contacted AHS and asked the person I spoke with to file a formal complaint against that contractor. I called several times and asked for them not to send a certain technician named Bob since he was the one who seemed to want to just sell a unit, but then, they sent him anyway. Nevertheless, the guy from AHS was very pleasant. When I told him I wanted to file a formal complaint, he told me that they would send out someone for a second opinion, and I said that that would be great.
Comfort was out here one day, but my house was 80 degrees that night so again, I called and complained. A guy from Piedmont Heating and Air came out the next day and he was here for five minutes. He walked out and told me that he could tell that the AC was three pounds low on Freon. Comfort charged $120 per pound of Freon, but Piedmont said they charge $60 a pound to install it. It was like Comfort was price gouging me. My house is still not cooling very well, but I am so frustrated that I’m through with it right now. The issue is not AHS, but it’s the companies they send out to repair the AC which represent them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Having a home warranty is a good idea, especially as the home ages. But customers have to do their homework and compare different companies and prices. We had other warranty companies and they were not as good as American Home Shield. But my mother-in-law has the same company and they keep jacking up her premium every year. Her home is not even as old as ours. Aside from that, one also has to understand what the warranty covers and what it doesn't. Having a warranty is not always as cracked up as one would think it is.
My biggest frustration with the warranty company is being able to get ahold of an actual person to speak with. The wait times are ridiculous. I would be waiting 30 minutes to an hour on the phone and when I had to re-call somebody, there was no option for that. There has also been a couple of times when I've gotten people in their call center who were really snotty. They don't have the understanding that here you are with an inch-deep of water in your laundry room and you're stressed. I get that they have hard days too but they're supposed to be in customer service and I'm the customer.
I had two simultaneous claims. One was for the washing machine and the other one was for the air conditioning. But it's hard to find reputable people and unfortunately, the people who get the warranty work are new in the area or may not have the best reputation because it's really easy money. They can get in and out, and get those calls coming. They don't have to market or worry about their reputation so much. The couple of folks that I noticed have better quality are Sears, who sent a guy out for the washing machine, and Hospitality Heating and Air, who worked on the AC claim.
Something was going on with the washing machine and the water wouldn't drain. The first guy who came out said that the switch was broken. It was the switch that turns off the revolving when you lift the top of the washing machine to open it and put clothes in. He reattached the wires and screwed it down. But he didn't actually replace the switch. We didn't know that though. The washing machine wasn't working when he came and it was working when he left. So when the washing machine began to have difficulties again, it was too far out from the first guy to be able to call somebody back out.
I had to drop another $100 to have somebody come out. But the second guy who came out was fantastic. He was from Sears and he nailed the issue immediately. He ordered the part, saw that there was another issue with the washing machine and ordered the part for that as well. The switch was mailed to our house and it came in three days. Then the technician came by the next day and installed it.
As for the air conditioning claim, we had repeated attempts to get the upstairs unit to cool. It would be running but the temperature upstairs would be 76 to 78 degrees even though the thermostat was set at 72. Some of the HVAC people the warranty people sent out didn't really seem to have it together though. They would come in and say, "Let's do this and let's do this," but we never really got a handle on what was going on, and what they did would fix the problem temporarily. With one company, the man was really mean too. He didn't even wanna be here and he was pissed. So I called back the company and told them never to send that company back out here.
Hospitality Heat and Air is the company that I really liked. They checked and added Freon, which we had to pay for. When that didn't fix it, I had to call back and I asked AHS to send Hospitality back out. They did a leak check and sure enough, there was a bit of a leak. When they went upstairs and checked in the attic, they found an issue with the coil. It needed to be replaced so that had to go back to the warranty company. That was something that the warranty didn't pay the full amount for and that I was gonna have to pay quite a bit of money for. So that had to be approved and the part had to be ordered. But that finally came together and Hospitality installed the coil. It was almost a four-hour job and I spent 870 on my end to get that done. But the air conditioner upstairs was finally working great.

My air conditioner stopped blowing out cold air and I filed a claim with AHS over the phone. The process was really easy and I really appreciated them. The contractor was very nice, pleasant, and very manageable. He solved the problem and I could hardly believe that it was that easy and simple. He explained that a gecko had gotten up into the little box on the wall and shorted it out so the fan had stopped working. This was all on the outside of the house, which was why the AC would come on, but there was no cold air coming through. He did what he came here to do and didn't waste any time. I appreciated it because we had nice cool air for the rest of the day. I'm very satisfied and would recommend American Home Shield.

We had one toilet that was doing one thing and our other toilet was doing another. Previously, we had another warranty company that never really fixed the problem. They didn't get back to us when they said they were going to. Conversely, the first guy sent by American Home Shield was great. However, when we got to the second toilet, he was confused by what he saw. The original owners of our place had set up the toilet wiring as if they wanted to put a bidet in their someday. There were little things sticking out from the pipe and had knobs. Also, it was leaking. He said their company couldn't fix the toilet and that he would have to shut down water in the house.
Thereafter, a second company called us and sent a different plumber. I was looking at the toilet and I asked him if he could replace the knob. He said sure and had it fixed in 15 minutes. Overall, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. They replaced a stove and microwave combination unit and that was a very positive experience. They’re also always prompt to schedule the service guys. One time, our pool had a leak in it so I called up American Home Shield. Then I found out that they don’t cover things that are underground. They wouldn’t cover a water testing. So I spent $75 just to be told that they can’t service it. But the guy was very clear and concise about it. He was gonna charge me $300 for a water test. And I did check two other places and that was the going rate for water testing.
However, there is one experience that I was really disappointed in. It did not live up to the level of customer service that I expected. Recently, our garage door stopped opening and closing completely so we called the service guy out there. American Home Shield sent out Ace of Garage out of Winter Park, Florida. When the technician got there, I told him several times that the motor was not working and that that was what he needed to check. But he did not check the motor at all. He proceeded to tell me it was a balancing issue, that it wouldn’t be covered under American Home Shield and that repairing it would cost me about $500. I knew from experience that that was an extraordinary number. Usually, a service in balance will only cost between $30 and $75. But I said fine.
But I had to call American Home Shield again and do another service call because the motor never got looked at and the garage door still didn’t open and close. So the technician came out again and said that that time, the sensors were jammed and that was why the motor was not working. I was not contesting the fact that they were jammed. The unit is older and we live by the ocean so it was a complete possibility that they were jammed. But my garage door, the Genie, was set up such that the sensors are completely independent from the motor. You can touch the wires of the sensors and you won’t get electrocuted. And the sensors were designed for things that get in the way. If there's a child running underneath the garage door, the sensor prevents it from closing on the child. The sensor has nothing to do with the actual opening and closing of the garage door. That’s entirely dependent on the motor. But he still did not look at the motor.
He even told me not to call American Home Shield because it was a waste of my time and his time. So at that point in time, I called American Home Shield up and told the problem to the representative. They said they would get a supervisor on the phone but I never got a call back. The second time I called, the representative told me that because of the way the notes were written and because of the sensors, I could not get another person out there. I could not request a different service company to go out there and I would have to pay another $75.
I understand that there are certain things that are not covered with American Home Shield. But I know that the motors are in fact covered. Even so, I was willing to meet them halfway. I asked if I could possibly get refunded on the $75 because at that point in time, it had already been several weeks and my husband just went ahead and fixed the garage himself. And the problem was, of course, the motor. We replaced the motor and the garage works perfectly now. But American Home Shield did not refund me the money so I proceeded to get on Facebook. I left several messages but they didn’t respond to any. So I was very disappointed with this.
There are multiple points of concern here but mostly it's that this particular service company is gouging people. Because they think they're getting these customers through American Home Shield, they’re gonna gouge the customers by sorting money out of them. That’s really ridiculous. This has been my biggest headache thus far. Other than this, my experiences with American Home Shield have been fairly positive. But people need to go into this warranty with some caution. Not every experience is going to be a positive experience.

The service technicians were from a different company, RMS, and were very courteous and efficient. They answered all my questions regarding this service appointment and determined my AC unit needed refrigerant. My DISSATISFACTION is with the warranty with AHS itself. My AC unit needed refrigerant because it is an older model. I am sure this is one of the most common reasons for AC failure with older units and this is exactly why my realtor recommended a home warranty to me when I purchased my condo in June of 2015.
In order to pay a very minimal amount for this type of service, AHS has changed their warranty and now pay only the first $10 of every pound of refrigerant needed. This is a VERY MINIMAL amount for this type of service considering the price of this stuff. I needed 2 pounds and ended up paying $230 for the refrigerant alone while AHS covered $20. In addition to the refrigerant fee, I also pay a $75 service fee for every service request. So in all I ended up paying $305 of charges for a $325 service call. THANKS AHS FOR PITCHING IN THE 20 BUCKS. Not very good coverage considering I pay $41.33 a month for this warranty.
Good morning Curt,

This is a TERRIBLE home warranty company!!! They hire the worst service contractors probably so they can cut their costs by paying the service contractor cheap rates. The service contractors they hire do not respond to phone calls, do not respond to voicemails. Their technicians are unprofessional and unhelpful. Any simple service (ex. fixing malfunctioning faucets) took over A WEEK! Several phone calls to AHS and they are unsympathetic and unwilling to help. They basically told me that my service request was assigned to this non-responsive contractor so I'm stuck with them until they reach out to me. The only thing I can do is to wait.
After this terrible experience, I tried to cancel my contract with AHS because when I originally signed up with them I chose the month to month payment option. Since I'm only 6 months into this with them and had such bad experience with them, I do not want to stuck with them for another 6 months. They were not helpful at all and told me I have to pay them so much in Admin fees to cancel my contract. So now I am being hijacked by this incapable, unhelpful, unprofessional warranty company who hires only the worst service contractor in the fields so they can pay cheap fees for another 6 months.
To say that I'm disappointed and upset is an understatement. So please research this company thoroughly, DO NOT get fooled by the positive reviews on their own website and on the ** website. Those are such scams!!! This company cares nothing but their own bottom line and is very unwilling to look out for its customers as long as they collected their premiums and service fees. So save yourself some headache, go with another home warranty company or just save the money to hire your own service provider but no matter what you do DO NOT EVER get signed on with American Home Shield. They CANNOT delivery what they promise. All you are getting is frustrations, unsatisfactory service and feeling of being unheard and ignored.

I’ve been a loyal customer with this company years and pay them faithfully monthly. The past few months my air conditioner was not cooling the house. AHS sent four techs out the first two said it only needed refrigerant... I refuse to pay another $475 until they said why it was leaking. They sent a tech out who never did a leak test but visually looked at the unit by ripping back the sealant around the pipes. He saw a bend and reported the unit was cost nearly $1000 to repair. I told AHS I wanted a second opinion and they sent another tech out. In the meantime I contacted a government HVAC tech and another private HVAC tech both agreed the unit only needed refrigerant and it was normal wear for the unit to leak. *I paid for the refrigerant and the unit works fine.*
The two techs AHS sent out lied. I called one of the techs on the phone after his report and recorded him admitting he never did a leak test and that if the pipe was repaired it still would not guarantee this was causing the leak. Never mind the fact that he wanted $700 plus $475 for refrigerant before he would even do the leak test.
AHS called me and read the last tech report and said I owe them $75 service fee. I’m on the phone with them now, telling them the issues, of course they're telling me what the tech said and completely ignoring my point. Two of their techs said it needed refrigerant and two came up with the pipe issue. So I had two completely different techs (not from AHS). The line set is not cover by AHS only the unit which was never tested for a leak. Now they’re telling me they will only do future repairs on the unit if I fix the line set.
AHS is a money sucking machine and I’m canceling them. They also refuse to fix the shower head in my bathroom because I didn’t have the original knob (which shattered and broke, it was 23 years old). Who saves a knob. They will find any reason to not repair your items and these last two issues prove to me AHS Cares nothing about their customers. Only that you pay them monthly and pay the service fees, the techs will Find any reason to void your contract so AHS doesn’t have to be response. I proved this by having two HVAC techs look at my air conditioner and both agreed the AHS tech was fishing for a reason to deny the repair and make up bogus out of pocket cost. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

I am very disappointed in the companies the AHS sends out. Last year my a/c wasn't working, they had to send the same company out to supposedly fix the problem but I am now having the same issue. They assigned me a company that on their reviews had not one positive review. That company called me to schedule an appointment and all that I hear in the background is kids (funny how one of the reviews stated that there was always a kid to translate). I called AHS back and requested another company which their customer service person was more than happy to do but she gives me another company that their reviews were not much better than the first company.
I called back to request a more reputable company but was told that until that company called to schedule my appointment they couldn't cancel that company and assign another one. I made it clear to the customer service rep that my 70 year old mother lives with me and that I cannot afford for my a/c to not be working when our average temp is 100+ daily (that doesn't seem to matter). I am seriously looking to change my home warranty company. For the amount of $$ you pay AHS monthly they should be able to provide quality companies that are reliable and not crooks.

So for the second time in 2 years AHS has sent out a tech to look at a malfunctioning pool heater. The tech made up a false story of why the heater is not working correctly to avoid having to pay for the warranty repair. Seems like the response is to deny a claim and make up an excuse that fits their narrative to not pay. Also a neutral repairman had a totally different account of why the heater is not working. Dirty warranty co. Beware.
Good morning Brad,
I understand your concerns with the diagnosis reported to American Home Shield regarding the pool heater failures. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issues repaired.

Two weeks ago when temps were 109 degrees, my central Air Conditioner went out. I contacted AHS. They assigned Sunrise Home Services as the repair company. They sent someone over 2 days later and they replaced the fan motor. All is well, so we thought. Less than a week later stopped working again. Waited another 2 days for Sunrise. The fan blades were dislodged from the motor shaft. He took the motor and the blade with him saying he'd return the next day. Didn't happen.
It's now been 6 days. Sunrise has lied and made excuses. I've called AHS everyday about this, to no avail. My biggest complaint with AHS is the customer service. I was on hold 20-30 minutes just to speak to someone. While they did contact Sunrise, nothing was done. I heard "They promise they will be out tomorrow" after each conversation customer service had with Sunrise. NOBODY could get me a supervisor on the phone. I was transferred 2 different times and was on hold 40+ min. each time, never reaching a supervisor. NOBODY could give me a direct number. As of today, I am still sweating away wondering what excuse/lie I will be told tomorrow.

When I called to request an emergency service come out I waited on hold for over 2 hours, spoke to a supervisor by the name of Lem and got absolutely nowhere with him or the company. They kept a repeating the same sentence to me over and over and did nothing to help the situation. Gave me an emergency dispatch number with no follow-up call from a company at all! Just thankful my house didn’t blow up after having a gas leak for 4 weeks! What a joke this company is! Extremely Disappointed with AHS. Would NOT recommend.

Our air conditioning unit wasn’t kicking on, but it ended up being an issue with the unit, not the electrical. We also had a blown fuse and they replaced that. Initially, it was an air conditioning problem and the air guy came out and replaced the compressor. That was when we found out we also had an electrical problem, so the air conditioning company contacted American Home Shield, and American Home Shield got a hold of the electrician and had them sent right out the next day. The customer service from American Home Shield was great. They called people for us and got somebody to come out right away.
The contractor that came out was also great, very professional, and very personable, and he knew what he was doing. He did a good job and I was satisfied. The unit has been going really good since the repair and everything is functioning like it should be. American Home Shield is definitely worth it, but they should try to get more vendors in the area. Over the years, we’ve used American Home Shield for a lot for things and sometimes, we have a hard time getting people out in a timely manner because they’re coming from out of town.

When the AC unit wasn't cooling, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and have had a great experience. At first, I thought I wouldn’t be able to place a call for service because I got off work late that day, and by the time I got around to it, I called them at 10:00 PM and got an answer. The gentleman submitted the ticket to have the AC serviced. He took a moment to see what the weather was gonna be here in Austin, Texas and since it was gonna be 101 degrees, he expedited the ticket. I got a notification that I should be contacted by someone to fix the AC and it was around noon when someone picked up my ticket. Then at about 2:00 PM, a technician arrived and he was great and very polite.
Our AC has a capacitor that blew up because it was working too hard for too long. The unit currently has a radiator that houses the whole thing and the fan sits on top. All of that had dirt and gut that built up over the last couple of years. The tech told me that I should spray that out twice a year with a hose. He took the time to remove the fan off the top and spray the inside and the outside. And then, he fixed the capacitor. We powered everything back on and then he hung out for a few minutes until we started feeling the cold air running through the unit again. Everything has been working fine since then. Being able to call even though there are different time zones, getting somebody to answer my call, and putting a ticket out for repair was significant to me because so often, companies are restricted to business hours. I may or may not get someone after hours so what AHS did was nice.

I always find it easier to call and make sure I’m getting what I want. Also, in putting in a request, the person that came out to do my dryer and range came to do something on my refrigerator a few months ago, and he had good availability to meet mine, so it’s faster and more efficient to call when wanting to use the same company.

My sink would not turn and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield online. Their online site was okay but they didn’t have enough choices. I’d like to have something that says “Other” under each one of plumbing, heating and air. If it had a slot that said “Other” on a space to type there what the actual issue is, that would be great. They only have, for example, a faucet or a toilet to pick. The contractor that AHS sent though was awesome and he did a great job. He was from Peacher Plumbing and he showed up when he said he was, so I wasn’t sitting around waiting on him. Then when he got here, he got on the deal and ended up replacing the faucet for us and gave us a comparable equipment and installed it. He was in and out in 45 minutes and it was good.
However, I don’t like the renewal process with AHS. I just had to renew and that cost me around 1,000 bucks for a house that, in the first year, everything that has gone wrong got fixed. The renewal cost is gonna be almost twice as much money as I spent the first year but almost everything was fixed. Other than that, I’m cool with everything and I’d recommend AHS. But if you got a brand-new house, chances are nothing’s gonna go down and you’ll just be wasting 1,000 bucks. Wait five years when you start getting towards the end of the service life of some of your equipment and then go ahead and do it. Other than that, AHS is very good.

Our air conditioner was not cooling the house and we came to find out it was low on Freon so I went online and filed a claim with AHS. Then they texted me back within 48 hours. All the guy could tell me is, “Okay. This is what American Home Shield covers. This is what they pay." The contractor showed up on time and did his job. He knew everything. He was really experienced but all he did was fill the AC with Freon. It was freezing up. It took care of that part of it but I said that the house seems not to be cooling properly so I didn’t think the fan was blowing on the high cycle like it needed to be doing for AC. It was blowing on the low cycle which we do for heat stuff. He told us, “That’s all I’m here to do. Since this is gonna take care of it.”
My neighbors have a heat and conditioning company so I just go with them. I spent another $80 for American Home Shield to come out for the service call and then they said, “Well, I don’t know what your problem is. I’m not there." I thought that they would check my coils, make sure they're not dirty and double check if everything isn’t frozen. American Home Shield did save me a couple or dollars but for them the AC is still kind of working, so they're not gonna do anything for me. I only had the one claim with AHS. I got a couple of other things in my house. My oven was getting to where it wasn’t working but I was thinking what were they going to tell me -- that they're still waiting so they can’t cover it? It looks like a good policy but there’s things, like any policy, unless you really read the fine print or actually have something happen, then that’s when you really find out whether that’s a good policy or not.
Hello, Brian. We apologize if you did not have a good service experience. You have a 60 day recall period and if the issue is not resolved, we can have the company come back out to check the unit. The contractors are all good. They're very thorough, they know what they're doing, they're very neat, they're not dirty and they're well-mannered. My AC was blowing hot air recently, and a tech came out and fixed it. It still blows warm air and then it kicks in cold, but he said that it's 'cause the unit is old. They were the only one in my area, but it took them over three years to finally figure out what my problem was because my air conditioner kept shutting off. There was this one guy who bypassed some stuff on that circuit board. He took some wires and kinda hot-wired them into another part of the circuit board because the left part of the circuit board was dead. I figured they would replace it but they didn’t. It should’ve been fixed properly but I was told that as long as it’s running, then there’s no problem.

Also, I didn’t have a place to leave specific information, which means that they don’t have a great way of taking who is gonna do my claim. I would like the opportunity to submit specifics on what I’ve got going on. There may be a contractor that’s better suited to certain types of problems and AHS doesn’t know that because they don’t know exactly the problem is.
Plus, there’s no way for me to follow-up on each specific claim and the performance of the contractor. The first couple of times that I’ve submitted claims, I’ve been getting emails to rate the contractors and I haven’t been getting those emails now. This is infuriating because I have very negative remarks to leave about one of the contractors as they gave bad information to us. The last time the HVAC repair guy was here, he said a whole bunch of BS about how some of the system works. So the thing we thought was broken wasn't actually broken. Thereafter, I got a call from SWAT Plumbing saying that they were really busy that week and that the earliest they could get in was a week later.
I told SWAT Plumbing I was working that day that they scheduled it and I could only be available in the afternoon. Still, they sent the plumber in the morning and I called them to say that I was still at work. I got a text that the plumber was on the way, but I was not home and I wouldn't be able to meet him. Also, I had some issues getting a hold of their reps on the phone. I guess they had a lot of people calling in so I was on the hold music for a long time. Even so, I sent them a few emails through their website hoping I could get a hold of someone to have that plumber be canceled and come through another day.
When I finally got a hold of someone, they canceled the plumber coming to the house and we rescheduled a couple of days later. The plumber was really good once he came out. Although he didn't see any leaks, he noticed that the drip pan of the shower was a bit loose. When I had an issue with the freezer and the dishwasher, they fixed it and it cost me only $100. It was a good deal. When the air conditioning unit got burned down, AHS replaced it. It took time but it was okay. They also charged me extra for something that they added and my wife wasn't happy about that but I said it was okay. But AHS charged me twice on one service call and I'm supposed to get a 100-dollar check back. I've never received that check though, and I've called twice. That aside, American Home Shield has good customer service. I filed a claim online and in 24 hours, we got a reply on whoever was gonna work on my service call and AHS solved the problem.

I had AHS for one year four years ago and then I called AHS back again. Recently, I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS. I had a very good interaction with their reps. They told me I had to wait at least 24 hours before somebody called me. The technician showed up and he fixed the A/C right away. He told me the problem was electrical short. So he fixed some wires over there, put them back and that was it. The performance of the A/C since the repair has been excellent.

Filed a service request with American Home Shield about an HVAC issue 17 days ago. They acknowledged the issue and the authorization department has approved the repair. The service contractor who has to perform the repair hasn't even contacted me to schedule an appointment. Don't know when my HVAC will be repaired. American Home Shield works with service contractors who have bad reputation in every aspect (work, customer service, professionalism etc..). The customer service at American Home Shield is bunch of folks who don't even understand English let alone speak in English. American Home Shield and their service contractors don't care about their customers and customer service is not their thing. I am really surprised that they even survive in this day and age of big emphasis on customer care. I would not recommend them to anyone.

On Monday July 30th called and advised water leak. Water turned off. AHS sent a plumber who wouldn't work on the problem (BUT offered to replumb the house for $5,000). Send another plumber who is willing to work on the problem and has been nothing but stalls and no follow-through from AHS since then. The plumber found the water heater to be faulty and also needed to be replaced. AHS added the water heater to initial order. According to the plumber, AHS asked for every nut, bolt, etc., (itemized to the basic detail) before approving the work. Said they would call back, etc.
Now it's Friday. No return call from AHS and we're out of water over the weekend. Called customer service over the weekend trying to get the work approved so we could get water to our home. Informed that nobody works on the weekend (authorization or finance) which makes no sense as these type calls are typically emergencies. Asked for Manager. Told would return call in 48 hours (coincidentally Monday or later). Said I would buy water heater so the plumber can get work done and we can get water to the house. Told if we did that warranty would not honor any work. Asked if they would pay for a hotel while house out of water. Was told NO. Here it is now Tuesday (8/7) and going on 8 days and still no water, no approval for the plumber to do the work, no water heater, and no phone calls from manager or anyone else. How many other people have experienced this?

I've had AHS for about 2 years. I have had nothing but problems and issues with them. The first issue I had was with a work order to fix my microwave and the contractor never showed. The next issue I had was with my AC unit. They sent out Total Air Care whom informed I was missing 3lbs of refrigerant and it would cost me $150 to fill. I informed if I’m missing refrigerant that means there is a leak somewhere. He informed they don't check for leaks when its only 3lbs and that he would put a sealant in the lines.
I asked what if that didn't work he said I could call back and I wouldn't have to pay another service fee. He failed to mention you only have 60 days for a recall before paying the service fee again. I then called back to AHS to let them know I was not happy. After my being on one line with them and my uncle on another (by the way the customer service was unacceptable as she was rude and attempted to inform I didn't have a leak). We also found out the 1st tech did not put notes in the system about the work. The next tech that came out confirmed there was a leak in the evap coil. He informed they would order the part and someone would come install.
After waiting some days I finally call and AHS informed I would have to talk with Total Air Care. I contacted Total Air Care and left messages and finally they returned my call and informed me I would have to pay $550 upfront and they may not use all of the money however I would get reimbursed the remainder. I inquired why would I need to pay that much upfront. They were charging for 10lbs of refrigerant as well as any modifications on the part. I inquired why? They informed that the refrigerant was contaminated. I inquired how when it’s a new system and that’s the only refrigerant that would have been in the lines. They couldn't answer the question. I then informed them that the first tech was not concerned with contamination and he was willing to add 3lbs of refrigerant so why now is it contaminated. Of course they had no answer.
I did some research on the company and they had horrible reviews. I then called AHS to inquire why would they do business with companies that have bad reviews and ratings. They informed they are a good company as they are at the top of their list. I decided not to go with them. AHS DID NOTHING. This was last year. The company who installed the system came out this year to confirm it was the evap coil. I did more research and come to find out there was a class action law suit against Lennox (the AC manufacturer) regarding the evap coil. I had the company who installed the system fix it. They also maintain the system. Yesterday I noticed the house wasn't cooling down and called them back out. Now I am being told it’s the condenser coil that is leaking.
I called AHS on 8-6-18 and inquired what other companies besides Total Air Care do they use so I can research them. They provided me with 4 companies but out of the 4 said only 2 are available. I researched those companies and they too have bad reviews. I called AHS back on 8-7-18 to inform the companies they provided have bad reviews and requested to be able to use the company who installed the system and for AHS to reimburse me what they would pay their contracted companies. They informed they couldn't do that.
I was on the phone with them for 1 hour and 32 min only to be hung up on. And 40 min was silence as the rep had me on mute. I called back to inquire with whom I last spoke with and at first the rep informed she didn’t know she can only see a user id#. I then requested to have a manager inform who the person was. She then comes back and says she doesn't have a first name for the person but provides a last name which is **. However what was odd is she referred to the last name as a female. I asked how did she know I spoke with a female and she then backtracked as if she didn't now. I then informed I wanted to cancel this service and she informed she had to complete a cancel form and then get me to the department that handles.
After she completed the form she then told me she would transfer me. I requested the number I was being transferred to and she informed she couldn’t provide. I then requested for her to stay on the line until the department came on the phone. She informed she could only stay on for 1 min and then she would get another call in. I then requested to speak with a manager. I'm on hold waiting for a manager and the next thing I know I am on the phone with a retention specialist by the name of ASIA.
So now I am requesting to make a formal complaint. She inquired what was going on. So once again I inform of all the issues I have had with AHS. She offered to send another company outside of Total Air Care and to waive the service fee. I informed her of the research that I did and the other companies they contract with have received bad reviews. So I inquired if she would use a company with bad reviews. She informed she has AHS and she trusts their judgement. I informed I don't trust their judgement due to my history with AHS.
I then inquired if I could use the company that installed the system and AHS reimburse and she said I can only utilize the companies they contract with. I informed why? She informed that was their policy and she doesn't create the policy. I then asked to make a formal complaint. She provided me with an email address. I asked for the physical address to corporate and she informed the company doesn't have a physical address and the email is the only way to make a formal complaint.
I then stated so the only option I have is to use the companies AHS provides even though they have bad reviews. She informed I would have to use their companies and if I am not satisfied after they do the work then I can call back, let them know and have another company come out. I inquired and if I don't like that company then the only recourse I have is to cancel the service and she informed she can put in a cancel request. I informed to send the company out and I then requested to have in writing that the service fee would be waived. She informed we are on a recorded line. I then inquired when would they be out and she informed I would hear from them and she didn't know the company that would come out. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AHS TO ANYONE! They have bad business practices and they also do business with other companies that have bad business practices.

The reason for this post is the complete utter frustration, helplessness, and disappointment I experienced while trying to get my Air Conditioner repaired by American Home Shield. I have been a customer of AHS for over 7 years, however recently they have made many changes for the worse, on 7-11-18 about 10:00AM I called in a service order for my AC. AHS assigned my request to K.&L. Mechanics, who came to my home on 7-13-18.
On 7-16-18 K&L notified AHS as to what parts were needed to complete my service. On 7-16-18 I spent over 2 hours on the phone trying to determine exactly what my insurance covered to insure everything would be in place when K&L received the parts they awaited. I have learned that my parts where not ordered until 7-18-18 with a due date of 7-25-18. I called to ask if delivery could be expedited or if the parts could be tracked by a tracking number. The answer was no with no satisfactory reason. Tracking numbers are an essential tool to enable products to be shipped and received on time without incident. 99% of companies today will provide a tracking number to monitor their products in route.
Needless to say on 7-25-18 the part did not arrive and it was soon discovered that AHS had made a mistake. They would have to review the process to see where the problem had occurred. I requested and was told that (manager - Candice) would call me back by 7-26-18. I did not receive a call from Manger-Candice until 8-6-18. In the meantime I found out after several hours of holding and fighting frustrating battles with AHS personnel that the second part was not ordered until 7-30-18 with a due date of 8-8-18. I am still without AC, The last 30 days have been the hottest of the year. My family is suffering. I have never experienced this level of un-professionalism and un-caring about customer satisfaction from any other company ever. AHS it is your move now.

My central AC is not working. AHS referred a contractor who never called me. I called them and they promised to call me back multiple times. Finally called me back days later and offered an appointment five days hence. I called AHS and they said they would refer me to another contractor and because it was so hot, I qualified for expedited service. A contractor was sent. He was harried and did not care. He did not have the correct tools to service the product and he left. Before he left he wanted me to know that the AC unit was of poor quality. Not helpful since it came with the house. I called AHS to request a new contractor. I was advised that I had to stay with the same contractor or pay again for the service call. In addition, apparently this week, I did not qualify for expedited service because the temperature in Los Angeles was only going to be 96 degrees and not over 105 (neither applied last week).
I find it utterly inhumane and unconscionable that AHS would expect customers to sit INSIDE in broken air conditioning when there is LITERALLY A HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR THE LOS ANGELES AREA!! Two customer services reps literally refused to transfer me to a manager, then one hung up on me and one transferred me back into the main menu. I am absolutely appalled at the way I have been treated here. Bad vendors, misinformation, and different stories. Not to mention a completely inhumane policy regarding heat advisory expediting which would seem to change from week to week. What is the point in having a home warranty? Shame on these people.

Which also means that they would charge me twice, because they cancelled the original work order. We had no electricity, & was forced to stay in a hotel due to the extreme heat. When asked to speak to a manager, was told that there was none. Then was also informed that they have up to 24 hrs to respond. I was and am STILL furious. There was sparks and flames coming from my ceiling fan and the smell of smoke. Even though I pay on time every month, the AHS representative told me that I would have to wait until someone got back in contact with me. I am cancelling service IMMEDIATELY!

I had an emergency with my AC. When the primary outlet of the AC gets chocked, the secondary outlet starts throwing out water out of the AC. I submitted the claim with AHS and their process was easy. Normally, I would put the request online and then I get a call from them and we set up an appointment. AHS then sent In Town HVAC Services to work on the problem.
We also had an issue with the washer/dryer and the technician came and without opening the machine, she said that the air docks needed to be cleaned. So we got them cleaned, but the clothes were still wet. Then we figured out that the person who came was not that interested in working on that issue and was very rude. I told AHS how the first company talked to us over the phone and their rep was really bad with the service. We requested AHS to send somebody else which they did and the technicians opened the machine and found out that the lint was getting stuck inside the filter when it was moved up and down. That was why the whole air was blocked and the clothes were not getting dry. We were so happy with the second company and we didn't have to pay for the second visit.
I also have a house in Chicago and that is on rent. We had an issue with the AC, so we told the renter that the guy will come to fix the AC. I had specifically told the guy that he needed to contact the renter's name, address, and their telephone number, but he didn’t contact them. Then, after two times asking them for an appointment, he came back saying that nobody responded, but I was regularly in contact with my renters. They told me that nobody tried to call them. Finally, after four times back and forth, we were able to set up an appointment, but that guy was really rude. Even my renter told me that when he came home for the service, he was really rude and didn’t service well. The service that was done was good, but the person who did the service was not friendly at all. Other than that, I am very happy with AHS. I've had them for about three years now and their service is excellent. I would recommend them.

When you turn it to the right to get the cold water, it would almost completely set off and a very little dribble would come out. There was only hot water coming out and so, we checked the other sink. There was good water pressure in the upstairs shower but the sinks weren’t running. We tried to check but we weren’t sure so we called American Home Shield. The contractors came really fast and it was fixed by the time I got home. My air conditioning unit was leaking and the ceiling was sagging inside the bathroom above it. I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and it was easy. The first company that they sent, Judd's Air Conditioning, came in June. They said that they fixed the drain valve from the air conditioning unit outside and that it wouldn't be leaking anymore.
Two weeks later, water was dripping out of the end of my air conditioning unit, so I had to call American Home Shield again to get that company to come back out. I also tried contacting Judd's Air Conditioning. They were saying that they couldn't come out for about three more weeks and that they've got a family emergency. But I think they knew the issue and they didn’t want to spend the time to address it. So, they said that they fixed it but they really didn't and just left. Also, when when I called American Home Shield on a weekend, I wasn't particularly happy with the customer service I was receiving. I'd asked to speak with a manager just to get some further clarification and the first person that was on the phone kicked me back into the receiving pool. I was dialed back into the call center and I ended up speaking with a second person.
Later, AHS sent out a second company, Strickland's Heating and Air, and they came out July 2nd. They took a look and told me that they could fix the issue. But after the service, I still had water leaking out of my air conditioning unit. This weekend, water had fallen through my ceiling and the ceiling in my bathroom fell through. So, Strickland's Heating and Air came back out and tried to explain that it was a roof leak that was draining into the ductwork, then into the ceiling. Then they left at that point without doing anything.
So, I called American Home Shield back on Tuesday and they said that they would send somebody else out. Total Air Care came out and I talked to their technician. He was able to clearly provide a reasonable explanation about what was leaking and what was causing the leak. He was also able to fix the problem to my satisfaction. He could tell that it was coming from the air conditioning unit and the air conditioning unit was not level, so he leveled it.
All in all, I was in three months on the same issue, had three different companies, had water damage in my ceiling, and my ceiling collapsed. Now, I got to get somebody to fix the dry wall and in the meantime, I'm having to pay the electric bill to lose air up into my attic because there's swelling outside of my bathroom into my attic. So, I was pretty dissatisfied with my experience and I would tell others not to expect much from American Home Shield.

Then there was another stain that formed in the ceiling. But because there was no bathroom upstairs, they couldn’t look at it and they said it wasn’t an active leak. So that stain is just continuing to get bigger. I had a different warranty company prior to this one and when something wasn’t repaired correctly the first time, they would honor and come back without charging me another deductible. With American Home Shield, there's another deductible every time I have something, even if it’s the same thing. Customer service is one of the areas that needs improvement. American Home Shield's customer service is awful. We have had multiple contractors come out and they do what they can to fix the problems. However, AHS is horrible about billing. They’ve charged us multiple times for things that weren't fixed. They finally went back and fixed it, but there was no accountability. I had to call and let them know that they charged me twice. I also told them that they said that when contractors come out and fix something, their work is good for 50 days, but if it's not, they won't charge.
They have everything on auto, so every time someone comes out, they automatically charge me. There's no accountability of taking care of their customers with how they bill them out. I had to call multiple times and they said that they will take it off, they won't send it out, and they can give my credit back. If I didn’t follow up and if I just paid it, I would have overpaid it for multiple times that people came out. If I had no account on my finances, then I would have gotten another bill because they sent someone out again. If I didn’t know their policies inside and out and cared about it, they probably would charge me at least six times what they should have.
It's been a train wreck. As far as a home warranty company, they do everything they can to not take care of the customer. They're just trying to avoid coming out of pocket. They're basically trying to wait out the year that most people will pay for it and they just keep prolonging it or they tell the contractors, “Go fix it even if it's temporary. Just fix it or put a band-aid on it until their warranty runs out.” My AC hasn’t gotten fixed and I doubt it will ever get replaced. I just bought the first home in March and everything has been fine. The AC is not a terrible issue, but they have not done a very good job. I was very understanding with them the first three times it happened.
After the third time, clearly, whatever the contractors were doing, they were not fixing the problem. I did some reading online about what they did and everything I've read is just, “It's temporarily solved.” They're not really trying to find what's wrong. They're just trying to see how they can prolong it working for a bit. They're trying to do as little as possible to not have to replace our AC even though that was what we paid for for the year in case something like this happens, an accident or not even an accident, just unforeseen circumstances. We're supposed to be taken care of, but that has not been the case at all.
I would point my friends in the opposite direction or tell them to try someone else out. AHS' customer service is very unsympathetic. They couldn’t even get me to talk to a manager or someone else to let them know what's going on. They say, “Sorry. They're all busy on meetings or conference calls.” It's a complete runaround.

He just needs to learn to be a little bit more professional. American Home Shield is doing okay, but they need to work a little bit faster, too. However, the people didn’t call back for several days and when they did, they said they couldn’t get out until the next Wednesday which was nine days later. The temperature was in the 40s and 50s so I couldn’t have stayed in my house. I told AHS to refer me to somebody else but they said that once they’ve made the contract, they couldn’t do that. I asked if I could get somebody else and they said yes. They also told me that if I get somebody else, they would reimburse me. What they reimbursed me for a $7,000 heater was $580 and I was told that that was all they would pay. I was furious. You couldn’t even buy a furnace with that, let alone put it in. It would’ve been cheaper for me to go stay in a motel for nine days if I knew it was gonna be like that.
Recently, my disposal was completely plugged up, and it was a Friday so when Budget Rooter got the claim, they came on Monday. I had an appliance installation issue wherein whoever installed the unit when they built the house installed it incorrectly. American Home Shield got ahold of somebody and worked it out. I told the person who came out that the system wasn’t cleaning very well and it kept falling over. We opened the door up and the thing just fell forward. However, he said that they do not do that and, “It’s something you have to go in there, stack this up and redo this one.” They would not clean the exhaust too. When I went back into it later, the system had to be really cleaned out so I cleaned that out and it works fine now. Still, my experience with American Home Shield has been quite well. I had an issue and they were right on it.

However, it took too long with the contractor getting to my home. They said they would be there between 8:00 and 2:00 but they didn't get there until 4:45. It was like an all-day experience. But it was fine with the contractor and he was able to fix the unit in that visit.

The latest claim I have submitted was for my garage door. I didn’t like the automated claims process because when I call in, I don’t get speak to a person which I like doing. If I have multi-issues with the same thing, I couldn’t tell them that. For instance, I had the same issue with two different faucets but I couldn’t tell them AHS. I told the person at the plumbing company but that message didn’t get relayed to the contractor.
It also caused an issue and American Home Shield wound up having to refund me $75 because I was overbilled. I got the refund this week but it took me forever and I had to contact them numerous times for it. And when I would ask to speak with a supervisor, they would say they were not gonna change their minds. Then I had to go through the sales rep for our area to get the refund.
One time when I called in regarding the refund, they finally agreed to me speaking with a supervisor. But they kept putting me on hold, saying the person was busy and then, I got disconnected after 45 minutes. They have my e-mail address and my cellphone number so they could have called me back. That was not a good experience. I also had one bad vendor. The first gentleman that came out to repair my air conditioning unit walked in and was excessively rude. He wasn’t even in my house for 10 minutes and he didn’t look at anything. He just said it was whatever, turned around and walked out the door. I've had American Home Shield in Kentucky before and the customer service down here in Florida is not as good. But I don’t want people to feel like American Home Shield is not a good company.

I previously had an estimate done by another company who told me that I need a new evaporator coil. I also even had a second company look at the AC and it was gonna cost me $1,400 out of pocket. A friend told me about American Home Shield and I could save some money. It would cost $50 a month and it covers all the appliances, HVAC and plumbing, so I thought I could maybe get the AC fixed for less and fit into my budget.
However, I was very disappointed because the machine wasn’t working because of a leak at the evaporator coil, but the technician that came out said that it’s a small leak. He sealed it up with a Dap, added Freon and I paid for the Freon, but my air lasted only five days and then it was out again. I already bought two window units this summer just to have in the meantime. I’ve been living with those because it’s very hot here in Georgia. I called AHS for the company to come back out and they did, but the Big Red Planet was the company that didn’t give me anything in writing. Usually when somebody does some work they have to give an invoice that shows what they did so you can have a record. He didn’t do that, and I forgot to ask for something.
So the second time he came a few weeks later when I could get the appointment, he acted like he didn’t know anything I was talking about, and it was the same technician that came the first time. He just came and basically looked on the outside of the unit and said, “Well, it looks like the fan is working just fine and everything should be okay if add some more Freon." But I told him that Freon lasted for five days and then it was gone because of the leak. The coil that he told me about needs to be replaced. But he acted like I was just speaking on another language. He didn’t know what I was talking about.
I wasn't gonna pay him for a Freon again for it to just last for a few days. I asked him to leave because the service was a waste of my time and money. He told me, “Well, I’m just gonna add a little bit of Freon” and they’re not charging for it. American Home Shield took my billing information off of my account so that they couldn’t charge me, but that’s all that they’ve done. I haven’t received the refund because the work just wasn’t completed. I called AHS to cancel because I was very disappointed.

The AC wasn’t cooling like it used to. I called AHS on the phone and the reps have always been fine. Even the people they’ve sent, I was a little worried about that in the beginning, but my last couple of experiences were good and they were all people that I felt comfortable with. They showed good manners to the customer and did everything I would do if I was in their shoes. The contractor had to replace some kind of a battery backup to start the fan motor of the AC. You get what you pay for with AHS. If you want security and want somebody to come on time, and you want them to do the work and be pleasant in your home, everything was done by both AHS and their contractor.

We put in a claim for the washing machine with American Home Shield on the computer. They called and sent a message, and the experience was perfect. The contractor was very nice when he came here to fix the machine. They tried to fix the washing machine, but they could not fix it because the part was not available, so they got us a brand new machine. They called us from the center and gave a selection of new units, and we looked on the computer together. My wife chose whatever she liked on the same level, and then, two days after, the machine was here. They put it together and took the old one.
My experience with American Home Shield has been excellent and I recommended them to many other people already. However, sometimes the issue is the date and the time, but, now, things are so much better from last year. I’ve been working with them for five years and it has been getting better and better every year. In the beginning, it was a bit slower and it took two weeks for the appointment. Now, it has been a shorter time and has been much more reliable. They are very knowledgeable and the connection is very fast when they send their replacement or parts. I used them last year about seven times, small things and big things, and everything was done in a very short time.

We just bought our house and put in a contract with American Home Shield three months ago. We used it once for the air conditioning as it was leaking. There was a pipe coming out of the roof that was constantly pouring water. It was coming down onto a second layer roof. The AHS contractor scheduled the service within one day and then a tech came out. He checked the air conditioner and there was a simple block that he was able to fix in 10 minutes, and it cleared up the issue. Knowing that AHS is there is nice. We haven’t had to use it that much but it’s useful to have some kind of warranty on all of this stuff. And if someone asks me about getting a home warranty, I would give them AHS' name. The pricing is fine and their coverage is good. Also, they were very responsive with the first incident that we had.

American Home Shield is doing great. With the fact that you can log in, it's that quick to make a claim. It's just pick the appliance and the brand then submit. Our refrigerator started making a funny noise earlier last week. So Sunday night, I went on and made a claim and early Monday, I had an email saying who would be here. It also said that the contractor would call within the next 24 hours or I could call them. It's great.
I also filed the claim online when the dryer was giving an error code every time I tried to start it. A & J came out and the technician diagnosed the issue quickly. They didn’t really tell us what was going on though. They just got the parts ordered in a week and a half then they came right back out and the dryer was fixed. In total, it took about two and a half weeks. It was just two visits and it was done. It was easy. I have referred American Home Shield also. Appliances don’t last forever so the home warranty is for peace of mind for a homeowner. That is what clients pay for.

They thought they fixed the AC, but they only fixed it temporarily. The second guy who came, however, knew exactly what the issue was and fixed it right away. It was just the capacitor and not an expensive fix for them, so it was good. I took off work and the company NEVER showed up and NEVER called. When I called American Home Shield about this missed appointment, they tried as well as myself and the companies phone was not in service. The second request I called about was in regards to my washing machine. They sent out a company who have done nothing but lie. American Home Shield has been an absolute nightmare for us. Our air conditioning has been out all summer. We’ve had 9 visits from an AHS contractor without resolution. They reluctantly provided a new service provider recently and for the past two weeks we have attempted to schedule with the new contractor unsuccessfully. They came out and provided a diagnosis that detailed everything that the first contractor said they fixed. Of course they are now telling us that we will have to pay several hundred dollars for the same services that were not successful. We have called every day for two weeks and have been told that they would contact us that same day with a diagnosis from the new contractor.
In 2 weeks, they have yet to respond and we have had to continue to pursue them. I have been on hold every time with an average hold time of close to a half hour... my last hold time was over 50 minutes before I finally gave up. We have spent 8 weeks in a home that will not cool below 83 degrees. We were originally customers of HSA warranty before they were purchased by American Home Shield. I’ve never had a customer experience this bad. Run don’t walk away from American Home Shield. Notice the hold time and the number in the image below.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Back in January, I called American Home Shield because my icemaker was broken and stopped making ice. They sent someone out and they had to order some parts. A week later, they returned and repaired my icemaker but not my ice dispenser. They told me they had to order some parts but they never came. It slipped my mind and when I called back about it, the lady told me that my time had expired and I had to call in a new claim. I wasn’t very pleased about it but I filed the new claim. Then, a different company came out and they had to order some part. A few weeks went by and I called Home Shield back to let them know that no one has returned and I haven't heard anything.
Thereafter, the AHS rep contacted the company and the gentleman from the company called me and informed me that they were waiting on four parts. Three of the parts came in and they were waiting on the fourth, but they needed permission from American Home Shield to get it elsewhere to get the matter taken care of. They were given the permission to do it and they showed up two days later and repaired the ice dispenser. However, I just wasn’t pleased with the timely manner that the repair was done considering I called in January and it wasn’t repaired until May. It was the fault of the contractor and I did not double check to find out what was the status on my claim. That aside, I was pleased with American Home Shield once the service was taken care of. My appliances are working fine since it was repaired.

However, there was some lack of communication with AHS because when the first company wasn’t able to come out and another company came, AHS didn’t take it off the records coming five days later. There was a mix-up on their part and a payment comes in my email.
I kept getting billed for something I paid for and they kept coming up on my email. I even got a letter in the mail. I had all of the copy of proofs with my Visa card and a bank note where the Visa had taken out the money out of the bank. I had to do a lot of work to prove that I paid for something. Also, I had to call and say that I didn’t owe for two companies coming out because they sent one out for my emergency and then the other one should have been canceled. In the same day, you get an automatic response and then about 30 minutes later, another response stating who will be reaching out to you. The tech that came looked around the unit and he found some serious issues up in the attic. He explained to my husband how to maintain the unit.
Recently the microwave blew up. We called AHS and they assigned someone, and I received a text message asking me if I was gonna be in yesterday. I called back and told them that my husband was gonna be there, but he works nights. They gave a timeslot between 10:00 and 1:00 so my husband stayed up all day and they didn’t turn up. When I called them, they tried to say that the arrangement was for today, which I said, “No. We have text messages here that tell me otherwise.” It was a he-said-she-said and I told them to just send me the $75 back and I’ll buy a new microwave. It wasn’t American Home Shield; it was the people that they used and after I looked at that company, their reviews are absolutely awful. But overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield. When the dishwasher malfunctioned, I filed a claim online. The contractor took about 24 hours to contact me then they canceled on me twice. On top of that, American Home Shield's pricing is good and the website for submitting a claim online is very straightforward. American Home Shield was recommended to me by a friend and I would also recommend it to anybody else.

There was a leak with my pipes and I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone. They were really accommodating and polite. They all worked out nicely. Their reps were all great. I spoke to the technician that was gonna go out there and I explained what was going on. It was found that the leak was outside of the dwelling so it would not be covered by the warranty. I asked him not to go out there to save on the service fee. I was happy with everything. So far, so good and I’d recommend American Home Shield.

My experience with American Home Shield had been very good. When we had an AC issue wherein some parts were missing but it got fixed. And recently, I had a washing machine issue where it was not spinning at all. It was shaking and jarring like there was an earthquake in the house then the machine just stopped. A person came, checked everything and said that it was time to replace it. We called back AHS to check on the status as it has not been replaced yet and the wait was one and a half hours. The lady who responded though was very helpful and she did the whole process very well. She said they would give us a machine but it was small in capacity. We wanted to go a little bigger since we are upgrading so she said she would send us the equivalent amount and we would put the rest and buy it.
We’ve had some companies which were very bad. A few years ago, we had an issue with a simple microwave and the guy said it was a small part. But, he didn’t come for a month or picked up the phone. We were about to cancel at that time and then AHS sent someone else. So, if we like someone, we like to refer back to get the same person again because we know their service was very good and efficient in the past.

This company was recommended to me by a co-worker and I have been so pleased with it. They sent out Eagle Electric and that vendor was wonderful. The technician was able to squeeze us in on the same day. It was so important to me that while he was working, he was very friendly and professional, and that he explained exactly what he was doing in every step of the way. He also cleaned everything up before he left and even vacuumed the floor. Other vendors that American Home Shield has sent have been excellent as well. I usually do claims online but when I've had interactions with the representatives, those have been good as well. Right now, I’m waiting for some air conditioning repair and I’ve called them several times because of the length it’s taking. But each time I've called, they’ve apologized and they’ve been helpful and very courteous.

There was an issue with my toilet. Filing a claim for it over the phone with AHS was very easy. The tech that they sent was able to fix the issue in one visit and the toilet has been working very well since then. I’ve been with AHS for 10 years and this is my second house. Two of my friends moved to American Home Shield for their home warranty too.

I had a plumbing issue in the basement. There was a blockage in the pipe going from the washing machine to the outside. I sent in a claim online with American Home Shield and the technician was amazing. He got it all fixed up and it was really quick. My only complaint with American Home Shield is that I'm not happy sometimes with how long it takes for a contractor to get in touch with you and come out. Usually, it's almost 24 to 48 hours before you hear anything from most vendors.

The dryer stopped working and I called AHS on Thursday. The contractor called the next day and said he would be out in our area on Monday. He showed up on Monday and tried to turn on the dryer. He left everything on the floor and said he had to order the parts, which should be in on Friday. He said he'd call, but we didn’t hear anything for two weeks. That Friday, when he didn’t call, I called and couldn't get anybody on the phone. His voicemail said to text him, so I did. The following Monday, he texted me back saying that he was trying to order parts.
I didn’t have a dryer for a month and I had to call AHS twice. They had gotten a hold of him. I think he wasn't big enough to order the parts and he never submitted a claim to AHS to tell them what was wrong. When he had finally gotten the parts, he came here that same day and fixed the dryer. Not having a dryer with children, a farm, and animals was okay for a week because we have a clothesline. However, it became an issue when it was two weeks. There are things you just can't hang on a line. And when you couldn’t get the contractor to respond back to you, it was saddening. The communication wasn’t there, which is big with professionalism. Who has a phone that says he doesn't answer his phone and to text him and then takes three days to text back?

There was a leak in the air conditioner and water was building up. My friend filed a claim with American Home Shield over the internet. It was a quick process and I prefer submitting clams that way. In just a couple of days, the contractor, Allegiance HVAC, came out. The tech was quick and explained what was going on. He drained the water and put in some Freon. He did a good job and the AC's performance has been great since the repair. American Home Shield is a good company and my experience with them has been good so far.

The handle on my toilet broke so I filed a claim to American Home Shield online. The contractors who came out showed up on time, were polite and they fixed the problem quickly. Everything has been good since then. I also had an air-conditioning issue and that took too long. I'm in Arizona, it was a 115 degrees and I couldn't stay in the house. So, I had to pay for a hotel for me for 10 days and a kennel for my dog. Everything with AHS was good except for the air-conditioning repair which has been my only problem with them.

I purchased this house with American Home Shield as the warranty provider and I would never do it again. I have had no help when one of American Home Shield’s contractors damaged my ceiling. The HVAC guy came and if the compressor was bad in the air conditioner unit on Saturday, he should have known that when he looked at it on Friday. He said he needed to give me freon and put in $600 worth. I paid him and he left.
On Saturday afternoon, we were hot again. They came back on Tuesday and said it was the compressor. When the guy left, he disconnected the element that lets you know when your pan is overflowing, and the water came straight through the ceiling in my bedroom. The unit was at the top in the attic so the water was draining down. I called AHS and told them that their person tampered with my air unit and now, I have water coming through my ceiling. They told me that they don’t handle that and it was between me and the contractor. I would need to call and have them come back and fix my ceiling. I told them that it was their contractor and they told me that they don’t cover that.
American Home Shield lied and said that they would have that person come back and make the repair and the person did not. American Home Shield lied and said that they would find the part that needed to be purchased to fix the unit. They claimed they couldn’t find the part. So, from the end of May and the whole month of June till the first week of July, I was without air conditioning because of American Home Shield. I went and googled the part and it was there to be purchased. American Home Shield just didn’t do it so, I ended up going with an outside contractor and telling American Home Shield to cash me out for the part. They gave me a lousy $500.
I ended up buying a whole new unit. As AHS would say, “If we can’t repair, we will replace.” They didn’t repair it nor did they replace it and they made me wait an inordinate amount of time lying to me. When I found the part and called them up, I I told them I was looking at the part and asked them what the problem was. They told me that they had 30 days to get it done. I told them that I’m a senior citizen with hypertension and I’m supposed to be in the heat until they figure when they would be ready to service me. I also had a guy to come to check on my hot water heater and he claimed that the element was bad. I was out of town after he left and he left my water running for three days. I didn’t even notice until I came back and there was water all over my driveway. My yard was a swimming pool.
My experiences with AHS were all terrible. They just do enough and there is no quality control person that comes behind these various contractors that they hire randomly throughout the country. Nobody goes behind that contractor to see if the work was done properly or if it was done at all. AHS is a lousy company and I would never recommend them to anybody. I’ve told everybody I know never to purchase home warranty through American Home Shield.

American Home Shield included more appliances that can be fixed as compared to another company. The contractor they sent for my plumbing issue was punctual. They did a good job and were able to fix the problem. However, I was disappointed with the dryer service. A contractor came but they didn’t fix anything and I was charged for it. They just looked at it, gave solutions but nothing got fixed and I still have the problem. The contractor explained that the dryers were backed up with lint and that's why the dryers aren’t working, and they can’t clean out the lint which I still don’t understand.

We had an issue with the dishwasher so I called AHS and the rep treated me very well. The contractor Sears sent out was outstanding. They got to it the next day after I called them. They were prompt and they did an excellent job. We thought the dishwasher needed a motor, but Sears ended up just cleaning it out really well and it works fine now.
My issue was that the last time I called AHS, I was on hold for 38 minutes. Also, when I had a claim for the dryer, they used a contractor that only worked in my state on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first time they came out, the guy didn't have the right part. That was on a Tuesday, so the next time he would be back, if he got the part, would be on Thursday. But we didn't get the part and it was two weeks later. If it had been my furnace that they were servicing and it was in the middle of the winter, that meant they would have to order it and, if I was lucky, the next Thursday, I might be on their schedule. I wouldn’t wanna do that again and I would not want to use them again because it’s limited. Other than those, I would recommend AHS to a friend.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield over the phone is a lot easier than doing it online. I'm old. I didn't grow up with computers and I'm not comfortable with it. And if I'd go online and try to do these things and then I'll have a question, there's no one to ask. I made a claim for my microwave door. I have a built-in microwave, and there's a lot of electronics in the door and the controls and the door wouldn't stay shut. So, I had to get somebody who knew what they were doing to come out here and fix it.
It took a while to get somebody here. We lined up somebody, and the day before they were supposed to get here, the rep called in. Her service man who works on Samsung has fallen, was in the emergency room, and couldn't come for another week. But, they found me somebody else who came right out, so that was good. Everything has been working great since then. I've had American Home Shield for a long time, and I've referred a lot of people to them. It's a great thing to have when you need it, especially for a big appliance.

My hot water heater was not staying lit so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. Their rep was very good. Everything went well. Initially, we thought it was the thermocouple. And after the thermocouple was replaced, the pilot still kept going out. The plumber was recalled, he explained what he was doing and it all worked out well. We determined that there was an internal leak in the tank of the hot water heater. They had to replace it and the unit is now working well. Having a warranty is very valuable because the water heater replacement would’ve cost me more out of pocket than what I had paid for the contract.

DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY!!! Every time I call to request service the wait time is ridiculous. As I am writing this review I have been on hold 25 minutes to put in request. This has been a CONSISTENT problem. It does not matter the day or time you call to request service for a shorter wait time. I have been a customer for several years now and will never use them again. They are Johnny on the spot when you want to purchase a plan but don’t count on that level of service to continue. Finishing this review I have now been on hold for 30 min.

This has been one of the worst experiences of my life, which is why I am compelled to write this review. I have been waiting for 13 days, in the middle of the Arizona summer for AHS to fix my main AC unit. Their customer service has been horrendous and there has been absolutely NO urgency in them getting the AC fixed, despite the EXTREME heat/heat index in AZ! I had to send a pet out of our home due to the heat. My kids and I have been living in 3 bedrooms for almost two weeks now. The other fact is that AHS supposedly repaired this same unit 2 months ago! My electric bills have been OUTRAGEOUSLY high even since then, which leads me to believe that they never even fixed the problem (for which they charged me $700 in Freon costs) and perhaps even caused the current problem!
The unit probably needs to be replaced, but I'm sure they will do anything possible to avoid paying for a new unit. So here we wait, in the extreme heat. The part (compressor) was due to arrive yesterday but the company that AHS hired said that they don't work on the weekends!!! When I asked AHS to find another company to install it this weekend they told me that was not possible unless I started the ENTIRE process over again!!! This has been a MISERABLE experience and I will never renew with AHS and I advise others to also not sign up with them!!!

My experience with AHS isn't very good, I've been with this company for 3 years. Water heater went out. They sent plumber who said we needed a thermal coupler and burner and we would have to order parts ourselves because GE heater was under warranty. We were upset that we had to order parts that we knew nothing about. We got run around from GE for a couple of days and they finally sent parts. Now we've been without hot water for 4 days, plus my 85 year old mother stays with me. This was terrible to go through. When parts arrived and sent plumber back, he installed parts. All was fine for two weeks then the unthinkable happened, as I'm writing this review I have no hot water again. I'm through with AHS, they should have replaced water heater like we asked to the first time we called them. Hopefully they will replace it but if they don't I've wasted 3 years of money on this company.
Good morning Leonard,

I have had AHS since 2011. Overall I like the company. However my air conditioner unit has a leak they can't seem to repair. Freon is expensive and I buy it every year. I pay someone else because AHS is high. Well this year I called and they said it would take about 4 days for Greenway to call to set appt. It's hot in July so my brother got someone to add Freon cheap. Greenway called a day early. I told them it was done and it's ok. Going into MONTH'S end my acct was overdrawn at bank. I went in to see why because I had 2 bills left to clear. AHS used my acct for automatic monthly payments.
They used it to withdraw $100 for a service fee. Greenway canceled the call. AHS never CHECKED with me on a follow up. I ALWAYS wrote checks for service calls. They no right to use my bank acct. I was upset. When I called they said they would send a check in the mail and it could take up to 15 days. I explained that my account was overdrawn and I would be charged $35 for both Netflix and service charge. They said there wasn't anything they could do. They took $100 on July 23rd. I haven't heard from them yet about the check.
Good afternoon Addie,
I understand your concerns with the Freon cost as well as the account activity that occurred. I would be glad to speak with you and ensure that you receive the refund for the service fee.

I have had the worst experience with American Home Shield as a new customer. My issue is still not fixed. I have called AHS on 18th July to ask them to set up a service request for getting my zoning system fixed. They set up the appointment with one of the worst vendors Cool factory. They came to my house, looked at the system and waited almost 1 week to submit their diagnosis. After submitting AHS customer service didn't even give me full information on what is happening and I waiting another 2-3 days and I called and they said that cool factory can't fix it and they transferred my work order to someone else (This was the worst wait in my life, I waited on the call for 2 hours and 21 minutes listening to worst hold music ever). Don't think I have ever waiting that long to get to talk to a supervisor and get the thing resolved.
Even after that the supervisor who I am not naming is like I have to pay a transfer fees for this work order. I was like this guy who came to my house didn't even come and fix the thing why should I pay for it. He made me wait some more time after and then he gave me some excuse. After that they set my appointment with someone else who came to my house and sent the diagnosis after like another 3-4 days. Then they didn't even call me to let me know what is happening. I had to call again and again (called almost like 20 times to get my issue fixed, which is not yet fixed). I called again to speak to someone and that person just put me on hold for 30 min and cut the phone as it was their closing time.
AHS DON'T CARE FOR CUSTOMERS AND THEIR TIME. THEY JUST CARE FOR THEIR POCKETS BEING FULL WITH ALL CUSTOMER MONEY. The customer service just puts everyone on hold thinking that the customer will just cancel the phone and call again. AHS doesn't care for a customer. I regret switching my warranty now, but I will surely cancel AHS soon as they suck. Their customer service is the worst I have ever seen and they don't do things on time. THIS COMPANY DOESN'T DESERVE THE MONEY I AM PAYING TO HAVE THE SERVICE.
Good morning Vignesh,

I had a leak up in my attic from my AC's drain pan and my house was not cooling off at the same time. The contractor sent by American Home Shield came in and fixed the leak. They unplugged the drain line, but they did not address the warming issue that’s in the house. I called American Home Shield back and put in another request. When I talked to ‘em, the interaction with their reps was very nice. They said that there should be a callback so that’s what they did so I wouldn’t have to pay another $75 to have another company come out, that they should have taken care of all of that when they were here the first time.
In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had a couple of contractors that come out. I had a plumber and the air conditioner people that come out and both companies have been very very professional, especially the air conditioning company. They explained everything to me including what the issue was, what was going on and what they needed to do, then they would call American Home Shield and tell them what they found. They got me running temporarily with AC, and they said I needed a new unit on the outside so they’re in the process of ordering that unit and coming back then putting it in.
I’ve told several friends about American Home Shield and they’ve gotten it because I’ve had it for years. AHS will fix a repair or replace what your problem is if it’s inside your contract. But I said to make sure that they put the coverage they needed and they want because that is the problem that a lot of people is having. They think they have certain items on their contract and they didn’t put it on there when they got the contract.

I did it on Thursday evening at 7 pm and the contractors were here Monday so it was just one business day. The rep came to the door, introduced himself, told me what he was gonna do and took care of it. Since then, the AC has been great and I would recommend AHS. I’ve only utilized the warranty about three times in nine years but when I have, it’s been very beneficial.
