American Home Shield sent out The Lindsay Company when I filed a claim for my garbage disposal and the rep was great. He gave me advice to use the garbage disposal at least twice a month so it won't rust up again. Since then, it’s been working wonderfully and I’m learning to use it.

American Home Shield has a very good customer service. They called back, which I liked and I'm very happy. The contractor from Sun Powered Solutions was good too. He went over both units and he made sure that they were all cleaned out. I’ve been with American Home Shield for less than a year and I went with them after researching and looking into what they provide, the warranties and everything behind it.

It was hot and the AC wasn’t cooling. I submitted the claim on the phone to AHS and it was very easy the second time. But the first time was horrible. They gave me the contractor who would be coming out to deal with my problem and this was on a Thursday. I kept calling the people but they were not in for the weekend. They originally said they would do the job but they never showed up. Then I kept calling back to AHS and they told me that they would try to find somebody. But it took almost two weeks before we could get some kind of satisfaction. I got discouraged and I had to keep calling until they got a local to come and do it.
I'm diabetic and I could not get relieved from the heat psychologically. My granddaughter and her two little kids live here with me. Her baby is two years old, but he was a preemie, so we had to keep ice on him. I went out and bought three of those little cooling situations that you keep ice in and keep them around him. Then we went and bought three more fans. My granddaughter is at management at the bank, so she was in air conditioning and she kept her baby in daycare anyway. The frightening part was me being here in the home all day. I got in my car and turned my air on. Then I would go into stores to be in there to survive. It was terrible.
So, we were battling and it was very hectic for the family. I started thinking if there was another warranty company because I felt like I was at a disadvantage and there was nothing I could do about it. Other than that, the tech who came out was very nice. He explained what was going on, told me what he was doing, and made it very plain. He determined that I needed a new capacitor. He had to order it and that took a little bit more time, but he installed it, so it worked out eventually.
I reached another point where the AC didn’t seem to be cooling again, so I called American Home Shield up because I wanted them to call the guy up again. He came right on and he said he added some more refrigerant. It's been working fine ever since. I also had an issue with my freezer where my ice maker went out. AHS recommended a guy and he took care of it. He had to order the part and as soon as the part came in, he came, put the freezer back together, and everything worked fine. Still, I would tell others who'd ask me about AHS to check around.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

It was 76 degrees and my AC wasn't cooling so I called AHS on a Friday. We've got scheduled and they had somebody out on a Monday. The technician was really good. He was early, which is unheard of when you get repair people. I even told them that never happens. He fixed the ac that day and was fast. We got the warranty when we bought the house and at the end I renewed it right before our air conditioner broke down and I’m thankful for that.

I submitted a claim for a stove with American Home Shield online. The stove's igniters kept going off that I had to unplug the unit. While it took four days to get a contractor out, our interactions with them were wonderful. They were great. The stove has been working since the repair. American Home Shield is good to have.

Our air conditioner had a leak. I unblocked the drain and I changed the filter but we were still having a leak. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. It was very simple. Once I filled out the claim, they called me right away and they gave me someone within an hour who also called me and set up an appointment. It was really a quick process.
The guy came out and he said he unblocked the drain so everything seemed to be working. But then it started to leak the next day, so he came back out. It turned out that there have been leaks from the handler onto the platform and it has damaged and tilted the sheetrock that is on the platform. So the leak is now coming from the pan at the back. The tech didn't fix that because he said that American Home Shield said that that is not part of the warranty. We have to fix the platform so that it will straighten out the top and the pan will not be tilted. But it seems to be working okay other than the platform issue. We'll just wait until the fall so we can just change the air-handler also because ours is old. Nevertheless, I liked the tech who came out and my experience with AHS has been very good.

I filed a claim to AHS for the Jacuzzi tub. The customer service rep was great. The contractor was very good too and I was very impressed with the quality of service performed. Everything works fine now. However, before that one, it was not a very good experience at all. That was with my other air conditioner. They had three different people come out. I was on hold for hours each time I was trying to get information from them about getting it done, and then when they finally had someone out, it was an awful experience.

Recently a pump and lift station went out. Harrison Plumbing & Heating came out for it and they were very good. I was impressed with their knowledge, service and how well they took care of the issue. However, my first appointment was set up with another company that was probably 100 miles away from my location. I don’t know how AHS sets up the services but the other company happened to be on vacation when they were set up. My repair was delayed only because I did not know that it would take a while for them to complete the service ‘till they returned. I didn’t get any response from that company, and I called American Home Shield back and then they set it up with someone closer. Overall I’ve had excellent service from them and they’ve handled every situation very professionally.

American Home Shield was prompt. They got the people out here quickly to fix the AC, and I appreciated that. The AC ended up breaking again like two weeks later, and they got the people right back out here. It has been great.

I had outlets that didn't work so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. Then, I was told which company was assigned and I heard from somebody within 24 hours. The guy who came out took care of the issue and explained all those stuff to me, which was way over my head. He fixed the problem and I’m good. Then, when my contract was up, they automatically sent me a thing saying, “Renewing in a couple of months”. I was trying to cancel but I couldn’t get through to a person on the phone line. I tried numerous times on numerous days and I kept going back in circles. So I sent them a letter saying I didn’t asked to be renewed and told them to not renew. I also asked them to let me know they receive the letter for the cancellation when my contract is up the following month.
They sent me back something saying they went ahead and terminated it as of the date they received it. They didn’t charge me for the last month, which was August, and they didn't draft that amount. That was okay because I was telling them I wasn’t gonna renew for September for the next year and that was perfectly fine for them to go ahead and cancel it. But then they were sending me emails saying my payment hasn’t been received and that it was past due. Their systems were not matching up because they cancelled me back in July. But I’m not worried about it because I’m not gonna send the money. Also, as far as the claims and repairs, I have no issues.

It's very valuable having a home warranty. My wife and I are both senior citizens, retired, living on 401(k) and social security, and having the warranty guarantees that our budget ought to work. We’re both happy with it and they responded to our every call. I called them out 'cause it was 95 degrees and the air conditioner wasn’t cooling the house. It wasn’t even running.
I don’t think I’ve had any trouble navigating through AHS’ site. I typed in what was wrong and they got back to me with within 24 hours. I called on a Friday and it took until Monday or Tuesday to get someone out here, but I can’t complain about that. It’s summertime and I’m sure there’s a lot of people having a lot of trouble with air conditioners. The technician was a young man and very congenial, and he went right to work. It didn’t take him long to discover what the problem was and I thought he went above and beyond. He kept checking and rechecking to make sure everything was all right. It’s so far, so good. My son-in-law and daughter have American Home Shield as well, and I’m the one that started them on that.

Two of the outlets in the dining room and one in the living room wouldn't turn on, so we called American Home Shield to have them fixed. My husband talked to a guy and he said that he had called somebody but then it turned out that he didn’t. Then he called somebody and they came and they were wonderful. We initially thought that it was the light that had a short because we just had the roof fixed but they knew what they were doing and they tested it right away. They found what it was and they fixed it in about 10 minutes.
They’re very nice people and I would call them anytime. They’re very friendly and it made us feel good. Because we’re seniors, sometimes people don’t explain what’s happening, but they did. They explained very well exactly what they were doing and what happened and why those turned on and those didn’t. They’re keepers and I would recommend them to anybody. Also, I’ve recommended American Home Shield to everybody that comes to this house. In fact, a lot of them have gone with AHS. They're the best. They send people within one or two days and they don’t leave until the issue is fixed.

The power in the house was flickering on and off. American Home Shield had sent an electrician out prior and they found that there was a short in the sump pump. But after that was fixed and repaired, it was still flickering. I had the tenants moved out and we cut the power off. When the power company came out and turned the power on for us to do cleaning and maintenance, they could not turn the power on because there was a hot socket at the meter box. The top right socket of the meter was burned up so the lineman that came out to look at it and said they either had to replace the socket or put a whole new meter box in and it was built into the side of the house like they cut out of the bricks.
From when the call went in until they first came out to look at it, it took them a week, which was a big problem. I called RJ Wiggins directly because American Home Shield didn't take any details about it. I told RJ Wiggins, "It's a hot socket. It's a recessed box in the wall. It is the top right socket. I can give you the year of the home. I can take pictures. If you can't get me in for a week, I need you to go out prepared to do this work" and they go out there and they're not prepared to do any work. Then, they said they don't even know if it's covered. They have to call and get approval from American Home Shield. And at the end of the day, they' said, "Well, we got permission to do the work. If we have to do something with the gas line, it'll be 150 on your part." I replied, "That's fine. I just want it fixed."
The lineman got up with his giant gloves on and cut the lines to the house. Then we had to have it inspected if they put any box in. We're talking about a multiple step process. When they called me back after, they said it has been approved and they can't get me in until next Monday or Tuesday. However, I should not have to go to the back of the line because they weren't prepared to come and do the work that they needed to do. I was irate. They said, "We've had 17 people call in since last call and they're after you." I said, "But my problem is not fixed. My turn is not over."
I called and lit a fire under RJ Wiggins and then I did the same with American Home Shield. RJ Wiggins didn't do anything. They said I just get at the back of the line. That's their procedure. I didn't agree with that, but I didn't hire them, American Home Shield did, so I called American Home Shield to take that up with them and say, "I don't care who came after me. I called a week ago." After I called, they have put me back at the back of the line. My problem is not resolved. It's not a new problem so I lit a fire under them and said, "You need to manage this contractor. If you can't manage the contractor and they can't get out here sooner, then I expect you to find another contractor in the area. Obviously, there's a bazillion electricians, we're in The Triangle."
I've worked in purchasing and I have worked all kinds of crazy logistic things with different contractors, so you just go down the line. Call somebody else. Set up business with somebody else. You should have a number two. I was always in production. There was always a second manufacturer. If one was down, you just go to the other one. It was unacceptable that they didn't have a number two electrician in the area that they could call and ask if he can get there sooner.
It usually takes a couple of days to wait for something to get done. It's not, "Okay, we'll be out there tomorrow." It's, "Well, let’s see. It's Tuesday, we can get there Friday." If it's a ceiling fan, fine. I don't care. If it's a disposal or a dishwasher, somebody can hand-wash dishes. It's not gonna kill them. But the power was literally cut off to the house. There should be a waiting system to prioritizing. Everything is fixed now and AHS covered it. That is what we got it the policy for. The technician that came out for RJ Wiggins was wonderful. He was super friendly and accommodating. But the timeliness was horrible.

My experience with American Home Shield has been amazing. It has been the best thing. Everything was working fine with the pool initially. But all of a sudden, the blower was making some type of noise then it wasn’t working at all. The heater wasn’t working as well. It would only stay on five minutes and then the water would get cold. First, I did the claim online then I called American Home Shield. The rep cancelled the claim and resubmitted another one for me. American Home Shield sent me the contractor's phone number and I called them. The technician told me he could be here the next day. He was quick and I liked him a lot. His professionalism was amazing. He explained everything thoroughly and knew exactly what he was talking about. Since then, the heater has been operating nicely.

I’ve used American Home Shield a couple of times and they were good. But when the commode was leaking in the back and its back was wet, they weren't good at all for that particular issue. I submitted the claim over the phone and it didn’t take long for the contractor to come out. The plumber went up there and replaced the inside of the commode, but that didn't help at all. He came out three times and he said that everything was fine with the commode and I just had a stress crack on it. But we moved into this house and we just bought that commode, so I don't know how it cracked.
I wasn’t happy at all with the contractor that originally came out. They didn’t fix the commode right. So, I got another plumber and had the commode replaced with a new one. The new plumber said he was surprised that the old commode wasn’t leaking badly because the seals were not connected and were all messed up. Everything is good now, but getting this thing replaced ended up costing me almost $400, plus the $75 it cost me for AHS to send someone out.

Sending in the payment is my job... my end is covered. Assign another contractor already! Called the contractor 3 times this morning. All I get is the guy that was suppose to be assigned to the job didn't show up for work. Can't reach him... Why not send another repairman with a water heater? Shouldn't be that hard people! They have no problems taking their page that they can get away with the fraudulent practices that they pursue. No one documents when they say they are, they send you shady companies that put a Band-Aid on a problem and try to claim it is up to you to pay again and again. They have no problems taking their payday each month, but failed to do what they say they will do when it is needed. I have had my air conditioning system serviced so many times I've lost count.
They claim they have no information from the air-conditioning companies and that the carbon copy receipts that the air conditioning companies leave me would not be sufficient evidence. I would say to anyone looking to purchase a policy to stay far away. That this is a giant fraud at our expense! I'm beyond frustrated with all of the hoops I've been told to jump through. I was told the last time if the air conditioning company recommended that the unit be replaced that they would do so. Then when I have the carbon copy that states that now they are claiming not to have that paper and that even then it is not good enough. Now they are claiming my unit again needs a new part and in thousand dollars in Freon which they are trying to claim it is our responsibility. I will be pursuing litigation at this point.

I had gone out of the country and my wife and one of my kids had left about two months earlier. So my elder one and I have moved up of the house because all of his stuff is upstairs. We barely used the AC down and we were using the one upstairs. When I came back in about three weeks, I landed at night, and the AC wasn’t cooling. I initially thought it would take some time because the house has been kept quiet but apparently, a capacitor had gone, which was just coincidence that it blew up and I left. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online.
However, there were some confusions. For the first 10 days, nothing really happened. So then I actually called in and then the process was very smooth. Off the bat, I would prefer just picking up the phone and calling, but unfortunately, with AHS, they prefer it on the web. So what happened was it took about nothing less than 40 minutes to get to the first person to talk to. Once you get them, then it's always smooth sailing and taken care of, but to get to the person on the phone is always minimum 30 minutes ‘cause I've experienced that over four or five times. I just made it a point to try to follow up on the net, and only if the net doesn’t go through or the person doesn’t reach out to you is when you need to call into AHS.
When we finally got everything directed and then the company taking care of it called back, they said they tried calling me, but they couldn’t get through and that they left me a voicemail but there was none. I can consider that because I was out of the country for three weeks. It could just be the network. But I'm not worried about that. I would have liked to hear it a little faster because both my ACs were out. But overall, the experience was good. The only challenge I've always faced with AHS is getting through the customer service. Even so, AHS is a wonderful company to be with. I'm very comfortable even extending and continuing with them.

In a matter of two days, the parts came in and the same technician came back. He brought another person with him that he was training and who helped him too. They did an excellent job. The primary technician that came in the first time was really good. He’s probably one of the best technicians that we’ve had inside of our home for anything including the electricians and plumbers. Since the repair, everything is perfect. I would recommend American Home Shield. These people are excellent for appliance repair.

The pipe on my AC was freezing up and it was blowing hot air. I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield and they emailed. Then the contractor, M&M Enterprise, called me and set up an appointment. Their tech was so professional and he was a good tech. He was polite and he let me know what the issue was and was able to repair it. Last year, the tech who came from Air Comfort Control wasn’t polite and he didn’t wanna let me know anything. They just came in, fixed it and left. Nevertheless, I love American Home Shield and everybody should get them.

I put a claim online with American Home Shield because the condenser fan on my AC unit wasn’t coming on, so it wasn’t cooling the house. They were able to send a contractor out the next day. The contractor inspected the AC unit and replaced the part and now the AC system is working fine. It was a 45-minute job. The compressor unit is making a bit of noise though because of the fan that was put in. Something is off and it's vibrating really bad so I need to call them back out again, but everything is fine with the AC system. Last year, I also had another issue with the AC unit and the contractors came out and fixed it. And it went smoothly. The contractors that AHS used for the AC system were friendly and they were able to fix the issues.
Anytime I put a claim in with AHS, everything has been fast and the process is pretty easy. I had another warranty company before AHS and it was a mess. I had a problem with my AC unit and it took about a month for them to get it fixed the correct way. A friend recommended AHS to me and he said he had no problems with them either. One of my brothers uses AHS as well. It’s a good program, so I would definitely recommend it to somebody else who is looking for an extended home warranty.

I've been with American Home Shield for over a year and our experience has been awful. The people they sent out were just too unprofessional. One guy said it was something on my refrigerator -- it’s a double-door freezer. He put something and then he said, “Give it enough time. If it’s not getting cold, call me back.” I said “Okay.” The freezer side is cold, but not cold enough to freeze ice. The other side is not. I wouldn’t even put no food in there ‘cause it was not cold. I then called the number, but there was nobody answering. They also have an 800 number on there where if you call that number, they will get back with you. I also sent a text, but it did not do anything. Then finally, I got the guy back out here for the refrigerator.
When he came, I was trying to text him to give me a little time to get downstairs ‘cause I have a muscle spasm. I was looking through my window, and he was looking at his phone. By the time I was downstairs, he was pulling off and then he was gone. He didn’t get in touch with anyone, and it was just a bad experience. Then, the guy for the appointment called me to set up an appointment between 10:00 and 12:00.
So I called them back when I got a break at work. I said, “I get off at 10:00. I’ll meet you at the house.” He said, “Well, I was wanting to get you early, but I’m on the other side of Charlotte.” I said, “What has that got to do with me? I’m paying for this service. You should have been coming here.” It only takes me 10 minutes to get to my house from my job. He then said that I stay close to him, and I did not like to hear that, and he was talking out loud. I asked him to give me a time when he wanted to come. He said he would call me when he had got through with a job. He called to where I stay at, and I’ve been getting the runaround with them. My husband was also getting mad about it. He wondered if they screen these people when they come in people’s houses given the way they act.
Someone called today. He came out and looked at the garbage disposal that I've been calling for. They should have been coming out around the time the other one was coming out. They are coming out tomorrow. I also talked to a gentleman, who was sounding kind of hostile, yesterday. He tried to satisfy me, and I said that I've been a faithful customer, we have put money in this and this is our first claim, and we get the runaround like this. They need to show me something. I’d rather take a loss than go through this.
I eventually went through PMC, my service. I used to have it with them, but they do not offer as much as the home warranty. Nevertheless, they have offered a lot of stuff I want to be covered. They were more professional than the ones AHS sent out. They were also here when they say they would be here. If I tell them, “Please call into the house and I will be there at the door”, they do it. The numbers I call, they answer it. Overall, I'm dissatisfied with my experience with AHS and I wouldn’t recommend them.

I had a leak in my clothes washer. AHS sent out one guy and he was horrible and rude. When he came in, he couldn’t find anything wrong and accused me of putting too much soap in the washer which he said was causing it to leak. That didn’t make any sense to me at all because I was putting in the right amount. Then he just left.
Then, AHS sent me an email saying that according to the contractor, my problem was taken care of. But it wasn't true and I told them that. Customer service called me and I told them that the guy said that I put in too much soap. But after he was gone, I let the washer run for a couple more times with no soap at all, just with plain water, and the damn thing was still leaking. So, their rep said that they'd let the contractor know and reschedule. AHS then called me back and said that the tech refused to come back because he said that it was what it was and there was no point for him coming back out again. AHS' rep asked if I wanted to have a second opinion. She also said that if the second person found something different, that would be fine. But if they found that it was what the first person said, then I would be charged two service fees.
I agreed and the second company that they sent out was a much smaller company but they were so much better. It was just a husband and wife team because the woman called me up from that company and I explained to her the problem. She then told me that she would have their technician call me 45 minutes before he would be coming to my house so that I could run the machine on and have it running. When the tech came, he saw where it was leaking from and he pulled the thing out while the other guy just looked from the top and down into the machine. The second guy actually pulled the machine away from the wall and chipped it so he could see the bottom. He found that there was a hole in the hose underneath the machine and that the problem was with some kind of a part of the drain where the water drains out. It was probably because the machine is so old. So, they ordered the part and took care of it.
The claim submission with AHS is really easy because I just go online and put it in. And the times that I have done it, the contractor called me up very quickly. I’ve used them for my swimming pool and garage door opener as well, and except for that first washing guy, everybody they sent had been fine. However, I was dissatisfied when I submitted a claim for the air conditioning and they did not warrant the Freon. They also paid a limited amount for it. When I bought the house, I had Republic as my warranty company and they didn’t have that limitation of only covering $10 per pound. I learned it the hard way that it was a bad thing because when my air conditioning went out this year, it somehow lost the Freon and a valve was loose. AHS replaced the valve but they had to put back in the Freon and it cost me $350.

My water heater was leaking but it was a slow leak, not gushing water, so it wasn't an emergency. I called American Home Shield and the contractor came out. They determined that replacing parts on it may stop the leak and it did initially. It wasn't leaking but from the spot where they replaced the valve, I felt moisture. Once I told them that, they came back out and said it wasn’t just that valve that needed to be replaced and that I was gonna have to have the water heater replaced. When they came and installed the water heater, there was a charge for modification that had to be done, just so the warranty would remain intact. So I did have an out-of-pocket cost. Nevertheless, I got hot water here now so that's good.

In the past, AHS had been good. It was recommended to me and I thought I would have a good experience. I thought that I was gonna be covered, that I was gonna be okay and that somebody was gonna be taking care of me. But my experience turned out not to be so great. Nothing was really looking out for me, not even American Home Shield.
The contractor they sent out was from Odessa which was two hours away. Come on. American Home Shield can get somebody local, right? The air conditioner wasn’t blowing any air and he said that the issue was the pads. He told me some excuse and I was left without air conditioner for a week. I’m a senior citizen and the temperature was 100 and some. I had to call another person to help me and I had to pay for the service. The issue wasn’t the pads and the air conditioner was A-OK after that. Despite that, my money was taken by American Home Shield. According to them, the call was still made and I would still have to be charged for that. Then they said they were only gonna charge me half the amount but I never saw that other half in my account.
My interaction with their representative was not very good either. I am actually paying to be called a liar. I was in customer service and I was never trained to make my customers feel like they were lying. My customers paid my check so I appreciated my customers. My company did too. The issue with American Home Shield’s customer service representatives is lack of training. On top of that, waiting for somebody for thirty minutes on the phone is a long time. They tell us that we can call early in the morning because they would get our call right away. But some people don’t have that time. I can use technology and do claims online but I relate better on the phone. I prefer one-on-one service if I can have that. It would be great if AHS could have a system where a customer’s place in line is held and then the reps can call us. I've stayed with American Home Shield but I'm gonna be looking for another company now.

My father, who is in Louisiana, recommended American Home Shield. He is a contractor with them and he sees good customer service from them. We’ve been with them for a number of years now. I’ve had two service calls this month. One was to repair my washing machine. I was getting an error message and it wasn’t working properly. That was resolved yesterday and it’s working fabulously.
The other one was for my ice maker. I had it repaired a couple of weeks ago and it worked after the contractor left but all of a sudden, it stopped working again. I know because of my warranty, I have a 60-day callback. I called American Home Shield back and alerted them of the same issue. Ironically, it’s the same contractor at M-Tech who does my appliances and they contacted me but they are different people because of their skillset and so, they put me back in touch with their appliance company. They called me back and they’re coming out tomorrow to troubleshoot and see if they can see what’s going on and resolve the issue. That repeat visit is covered under my warranty. I’ve always had positive experiences with this particular contractor and they’re always on time, courteous and professional and they always resolve my problems. I have confidence that they’ll come back and will figure this problem out.
I’ve also had positive experiences with American Home Shield in general. I’ve heard different people with different problems and complaints but for me personally, every time I’ve used the service in my warranty, I’ve never had any concern or issue. When I call, they’re responsive. The contractors would also call me within 24 to 48 hours and they’ve always been quick to get someone to come out and service me. In fact, my contract was just renewed at the very end of July. We talked about it in my family if we should keep the warranty or we should go to someone else. We’ve been treated fairly so far and to our satisfaction so we will keep our contract in place.
Also, there was a time years ago, when I had a newborn and my AC went out and it was gonna take a while. It was summertime in Atlanta and the HVAC guys were backed up just to begin with but I remember alerting them that I have a newborn and that they need to get the AC fixed. They put me up a little higher as a priority and I appreciated that. However, there was also an HVAC company that came out to service me and after the guy assessed what my situation was, he went back to his company and the next thing I know, I had one of their salesmen come out to my home with a big folder and tried to sell me a new unit. He said that my unit is really old. They took my warranty service call to sell me a new product.
I looked at him and told him that’s why I have my warranty because when things like this happen, American Home Shield will cover it and as long as they’re continuing to cover my equipment, I don’t need to buy a new unit. I called American Home Shield and I told them not to send me that company to my home ever again. AHS listened to me and the next company came out and they were fabulous. It was a good experience. I referred my sister to American Home Shield and she signed up in the last twelve months. Also, I tell others of my positive experiences and how my home issues were resolved. I’ve had great customer service and attention to my needs.

I actually forgot to call him back but he called me and I told him that he can come over whenever. He was here in 15 minutes, and he pulled out his equipment and changed out the locks, then we chatted a little bit. He was very friendly. Then he gave me my new set of keys for all the locks that he changed and he was on his way. It was pretty painless. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

I called American Home Shield and the gentleman they sent was very nice and polite. We did not know that there is something to be done up in the attic in order for the air conditioner to start working again. He went up, fixed it and got the air conditioner working for me so that means a lot. I have the $100 that I have to pay but luckily for me each time I've had to use them my problems were small. Nevertheless, I'm still happy because I live alone and I don't have anybody that I can call on to help me with these things. Whenever I've had to use American Home Shield, I've been satisfied. Both of my AC's quit working. The fan of the AC worked but there was no cooling at all and it was very hot. AHS sent a repairman and when he came, I found out that neither one of the AC had any more coolant fluid so he refilled both of them. One of them had leaked some, so he put an anti-leak component into the refrigerant. Then later the one upstairs was not cooling and when he came back, he found that there was a failed capacitor and he happened to have it with him. He replaced it and everything has been fine since then.
The repairman was punctual and polite. He asked me if I had changed the filters because that's very important and I said that I had changed the one I could find, but I had not been able to find the other one. He knew exactly where it was and he said that if I happen to have a filter of that size, he would replace it for me. He went out to the truck, got a ladder and brought it in because it was on the ceiling. I’m 78 and I don’t get up on ladders anymore. He was very thoughtful and he went beyond the call of duty which I appreciated very much. I was very satisfied with AHS.

I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield over the phone, however, I have to stay on the line for over 30 minutes sometimes before I can get them to answer their phone. It also takes a while before they send somebody. I was with AHS one time, then I canceled it. Then one day I decided to try them again. I’m on a fixed income and I didn’t know whether I can afford it or not. I’m still with them but I was very upset about this Patriot Plumbing and with my insurance. I don't want other people to go through what I did. My water heater went out on the 19th of May and I didn’t get any service until the 25th of June. I was very frustrated by that.
The first thing Patriot Plumbing asked me for was the service charge. I said that it has been taken out of my checking account and that we don’t give it to them. They said that I had to pay them $190 before they would start working. I said that I got a credit card, but he said no and that they wanted cash. I had to pay them first and they said that if I didn’t have the money in 10 minutes, they were leaving. They looked at the heater, left, and came back in a week’s time for the water heater. They knew it was late. I had to pay out to over $2000 because the carpet got wet. They are very bad and I’ve sent a letter to the Better Business Bureau about them. AHS also still owes me some money. I had to call somebody in to do my water heater for me because I had a death in my family. I told AHS about that and they wanted his license and I’m waiting for his license to send it to them.
American Home Shield also called K&J for my AC but they never called me back. I had to call them, but they never came out. I canceled it, but I called them back again and they never called back. I called AHS and I told them that K&J didn’t respond and they sent out Tommy Garner Air Conditioning & Heating. Tommy Garner was the only one who had come out on time. The guy who came out said that I should have asked for them for our water heater because they worked on my AC in the winter time. I had trouble with the AC in the winter time in January and they worked on it and came back out here when I had the trouble with it the last time. They were very good and my AC's working good now. I was completely satisfied with them and I would recommend them to anybody.

He left after refusing to repair the issue. We called and American Home Shield stated that they would send another repair guy to look at the duct work of the a/c unit and obviously only charge us $75 once for the service call.
After the second repair guy came and patched up the leaky air from the a/c, American Home Shield charged my account another $75 even though they made it clear to me that they would not. I have tried calling 3 times to try to get the $75 removed. Each time, I wait on the phone for 45 min and get someone telling me that the charge will be removed and nothing happens. I have had AHS for nearly 4 years but am about to cancel my contract due to their terrible contractors. My dishwater was not working properly in May so a tech came to look at it and claimed it was due to low water pressure from my kitchen faucet, so I had to get that fixed first. Fine, $75.00 service/co-pay paid and I call AHS again to send me a plumber to fix my faucets. Plumber (Action Plumbing) never shows up to my house and I call both the plumbing company and AHS to see what happened. No solution so finally 3 weeks later a different plumbing company arrives. They take a look at it, tell me it's low water pressure but not sure why it's low so will come back to try to fix it... another $75.00 service fee charged.
The only problem is that they never came back to fix the faucet. I was patient and gave them time and finally called the plumbing company and they said they will get back to me but of course never did. So I called AHS and complained and they were going to send me the original company (Action Plumbing) back to my house. Why?!? I finally agreed to have the second company to come back to my house to fix the problem, except they are coming back to just evaluate and diagnose the issue, and not fix it!
I told AHS, "Do not waste my time because the company already looked at my faucet." I need it fixed not evaluated! So after $150.00 and 3 months later, only one plumber has been by to look at my sink, and I still have a broken dishwasher and faucets with low water pressure. And it gets even better, AHS then tells me low water pressure isn't covered under my warranty. It appears the contractors only want to do work that is not covered by AHS so they can charge more compared to what AHS would reimburse them. The dishwasher technician just punted the job to someone else and that current plumber is trying to punt it off to another person. Overall just a terrible experience.
Hi Peter,
I understand your frustration with the ongoing delay in service that you have experienced to have your dishwasher as well as the faucets repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

When my son bought his house, I gave him a home warranty from AHS. I truly thought that it was the best product out there - boy was I mistaken! Hours were spent on the phone, in person and through emails trying to resolve a plumbing issue. For four months, my son and daughter lived with sewage spewing into their dishwasher and on the kitchen floor and the best AHS could do was send plumbers out to evaluate the problem. AHS refused to clean the main line because the cleanout wasn't located inside the house. Who has a sewer clean out inside their house? Guess it was their way of ignoring the problem. They use shady contractors, in addition to some really good contractors whose hands are generally tied.
Sewage bubbling in the backyard, sewage on and under the kitchen floor. A dishwasher that has to be disposed of. All phone calls with AHS were recorded. Four months of this one issue. A hazard to the health and well being of everyone in the house. Just days later, raw sewage filled the dishwasher - all from running water in a sink. Contacted the CEO of ServiceMaster (parent company) and head of AHS consumer services. 6 days later, still no return call or email.
In the interim, my son spent over $750 to have the lines "diagnosed" and cleaned. AHS left them with raw sewage in the flooring and dishwasher and didn't have time to respond for over a week - it's been in the 90's outside! Meanwhile all of the toxic fumes have saturated the house, air conditioning ducts and lungs of my family! Due to AHS's lack of concern for anyone and their negligence in fixing this improper installation to begin with, the cost of remediation is now in the thousands of dollars. Horrible company. Never hire or gift them.

They had to order a couple of parts and wait for the parts to come in. I did not like that but there wasn’t anything that I or they could do about it. And now, the AC is operating fine.
Having a warranty is very valuable. I have it on my home and on my rental home. I travel a lot and the warranty allows me to be able to have things done whether I’m there or not. I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to my sister, my brother-in-law, and a few others. My brother-in-law has already done Home Shield based on my recommendation.

Whenever I need to file a claim with American Home Shield, I prefer doing it online. Their website is easy to use, the response is usually really good, and I get an email confirmation that so and so company will be contacting me shortly. With the most recent claim that I filed online, the contractor that they sent, Service Contractors Plumbing, knew what the issue was within seconds. My garbage disposal decided to stop working, had a leak in it, and they ended up replacing it. The tech got it done in 15 minutes and was out of here. It was great.

The garage door wouldn’t stay shut and kept coming back up. At one point, when I was trying to hit it a couple of times to stay down, smoke came out of the back of the unit. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for repair. I did it online which I've done three times since I bought this house and I've never had a problem navigating through their website. The contractor came and the capacitor, which was what was smoking, had to be replaced. The tech also did adjustments and sometimes, I would help him by hitting the garage door while he was making the adjustments. Everything's working fine since.

Our air conditioner stopped working and I filed a claim with AHS over the phone. Our problem was not resolved and it wasn’t the most professional situation. The contractor had recharged our Freon and within that short amount of time, he couldn't even remember how much Freon he had used for us. I think he had gotten a phone call and gotten distracted. I don’t think it was the worst though. He diagnosed the problem and took care of it.
We had two air conditioners in this house when we purchased it. With the air conditioning, the fine print slices and dices up what they're gonna pay so much that it didn’t really cover anything for us. They cover so little on the air conditioning that in total, we paid $300 out of pocket. Even the contractor told us that AHS covers very little on air conditioners.
To get a basic home warranty would have been in the range of $300. We had to add on more for the air conditioner and then we had to pay that much out of pocket. It's not a lot of money but it makes me worry that if something more was to go out with the air conditioner they would cover virtually nothing. If you have air conditioning and you pay the additional to have it covered, it needs to be covered. The coverage is not robust and if you end up paying out of pocket then why have this thing? I've had other home warranties where I was more impressed. I feel that's AHS is a hokey home warranty and I'm not really happy.
Hi Amber,
I understand that there are some concerns regarding the non covered cost to have your AC system repaired. Per every AHS contract we cover $10 per/lb of Freon. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the cost paid.

The spigots from the hose line on the exterior of the house were leaking. I called American Home Shield to file a claim for it. Within a week, their contractor showed up. I showed them what was going on and he took a look at it. He asked if I had anything to be replaced and he took some photos. We talked about what was needed to get them replaced and he scheduled a time to come back out and do it. I thought we were gonna have to get a separate guy out to do some drywall work because they had to create interior access to get to those but he was able to do it. I was a little apprehensive at first. I wasn’t sure how much work was gonna be involved or if he could do it but he did a great job.

American Home Shield contacted Herrington Heating and AC to handle the situation. Then Phillip promptly came out the next morning and we got the unit looked up. He diagnosed the issue and it took until Monday to be able to gather up all parts to be able to make the necessary adjustments and repairs. Four days later, I had air conditioning. It was great. It was a 104 every day during those few days and it was absolutely miserable so we were pleased to have air conditioning again. Herrington was awesome and they were courteous. I submitted a claim to AHS because my AC wasn't getting cold. Submitting the claim to them was fine, they weren’t the problem. It was the vendor that they used. The first contractor just took their time. I told them that my daughter’s pregnant and it’s hot in this house. When I'd call to check on the status of the parts, they’d tell me that I had to send an email to check the status of it and someone would call me back after 6 o'clock. But no one ever called. I called day after day. And when they finally called me back, that was when I canceled.
I told AHS they don’t need to use those contractors anymore because they don’t return phone calls. They suck. They had to come out here twice and they still didn’t do what they needed to do. I told American Home Shield I did not want them coming back out here. And so, AHS set me up with somebody else locally but I told them I was no longer interested. But they said the parts were back and if they could schedule a time for the contractor to come out to replace it.
I love the new contractor and their prompt response. They came the next day, and the technician fixed it. He didn’t have to wait on any part. I also gave the new contractor the invoice that the first contractor gave me. He said what they put on there was not the problem. The contractor came on time, got to what was happening, and went right to work. I cleared everything away and he just worked. It was a very pleasant experience.
The garbage disposal has been working excellently since then, but the equipment itself is guaranteed for two years. We've had it before two years ago so I'll be placing a claim again if I'm still here in two years. When I have an issue and I submit claims with AHS, I do it over the internet or sometimes try it on the phone. The thing about the internet, however, is you cannot describe the issue in detail so that the repair person knows what it is and can at least prepare for it. Like for this most recent claim we filed where our air conditioner is way too loud but the person said it is quite normal so there is no need to do anything at that time, I could only select air conditioning and that was it. Because of that, it would take up more time of the contractor being in my home. With this last issue, it could take five minutes. But the next time that the AC would need repair, it would probably take three hours, so it is important to know what kind of issue the contractors might experience.
If I call AHS, I can describe what the issue is. That’s why it is my preferred method, but then sometimes, it takes too long to wait until somebody picks up the phone. “Too large call volume,” that’s what you'll hear whenever you call. Then with this air conditioning company, when I called them, the first message said they will call me within 30 minutes but they never called so I have to call again. They called back at night as if they only have one person. It looks like it’s a bigger company but it seems like there are not too many people who do administrative work and they could not tell the timeframe when the technician was coming.
The technician called the night before and told me he's coming between 9:00 and 11:00 which was good because at least they'd come. But sometimes, I've had to wait the whole day and because of work, that’s not possible. This happened twice and then we even said if they are not coming with the times, then there would be no future contract with them, so somebody showed up. It is very important that they'd give me a more narrow timeframe because I'd be losing my time. The window of two or three hours is good, so we can plan for it.

We’re completely over American Home Shield and all of their vendors. I'm paying for somebody to come out and brush me off or do the cheapest possible work. An issue is gonna be fixed for two minutes and then, it's gonna break again. The spa wasn't working properly and a guy came out and said it works fine but that was not true. It still doesn’t. The ice maker broke again and it still doesn't work. Also, for the dishwasher, we ended up removing part of the plastic tray ourselves and it finally stopped leaking after we paid the guy three times to come out. The hot tub still doesn’t work properly, and we're really frustrated and tired of it, especially when American Home Shield seems to be more concerned about the $75 and the feedback.
They're finding the cheapest vendor to literally put a Band-Aid and not really address the issue. The quality of the vendor and of the staff that they're hiring and the process itself have gone to crap just like the rest of the home warranties out there. So, we won't be renewing because there's no point. We'll just pay to fix it ourselves and get down the road.
Also, the guy who came out for our bathtub said the repair was totally covered under the warranty. And then, the warranty company called us and said it wasn't covered. They made some excuses why it wasn’t gonna be covered. The guy apparently did not wanna make a repair. It was a tough repair. He said they had to order the part and it would be a couple of weeks. And then, he told American Home Shield that it wasn’t normal wear and tear. The house we just bought is 17 years old so I couldn't understand how an original fixture being broken is not normal wear and tear. I was super pissed.
I also took time off work to accommodate their Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00 schedule because that’s all any of them work. American Home Shield is speeding them so they don’t have to work nights and weekends. So, they don’t accommodate customers anymore and they don’t care. We ended up having to figure out how to fix the bathtub ourselves by watching it on YouTube. It was $50 in parts and a day of my husband’s time. It wasn’t normal wear and tear. It has been repeated on every warranty call that we've had at this house that we just bought in March. It's very disappointing because American Home Shield used to be the standard of excellence in the industry. I was a realtor in Texas and I was affiliated with American Home Shield, and the way that they treat their people out here in Nevada is shameful.
Good evening Chelle,

AHS knows their AC/Plumbing contractors are requiring homeowners to make repairs that aren't needed. And when you try to cash out option, they don't cover items they'd cover if you use their contractors. Their contractors charge more to fix covered items than if you didn't have a warranty and just hired a contractors.

I called, put in a claim and they sent out Quality Air HVAC. I was told I need a new compressor. I asked both men at different times, "Is that all I need?" And they both confirmed yes. Two days later I get a call from Quality Air HVAC saying I need to pay $300 dollars for the fluid that go in the compressor. I was so disappointed in AHS that they sent this company representatives out who didn't give a full work order that needs done. Therefore I was not paying the $300. Just do my compressor. 8-9-18 was the date we agree for them to come out and put in the new item.
I took off work and they never showed up. Called back the next day and spoke with a supervisor name Darren and he said their system was down. There was nothing he could do. Email, phone call is something I would say. So today 8-13-18 Quality Air HVAC came to fix it and said I need a Line Set modification that cost $85 dollars. They sat there until I called in and paid. Just a horrible experience with this situation it seem like when you have an AC unit people see $$$$. I will find someone to put my coolant in before I call Quality Air HVAC. AHS can never send them to my house to change a light bulb.

We called and sent AHS all of the quotes, but they denied the claim. They said we should've contacted them first, which might be true, but it was bad faith as far as we're concerned since we have the policy, had gotten quotes, and did all the stuff we were supposed to do. We also probably used people that they would've used anyway. They could have at least partially honored the claim, but they didn't even respond. We weren't very happy with AHS. Our insurance from Home Shield seems to be good but we keep getting a bill from them for something that we already paid. There was a prepayment that was required for their services and my wife paid it with a credit card. We ended up having to contact three different contractors in order to get their work done. And for some reason, the prepayment was not transferred from the first and second people that they contacted. Still, the services were fine. I was just somewhat discouraged by the contractors they have in response. We had an AC issue. We called AHS and they set up the first contractor who then couldn’t make it out here for about two weeks.
The temperature was running about 104 degrees that day and I don’t live in the house by myself. My granddaughter and great-grandchildren live here and we couldn't wait for the contractor to take two weeks to get here. So, we contacted the second people. The first people were the ones that required the prepayment of $75. We thought that the prepayment would automatically transfer over to the second people being that the first ones did not respond to it. And then, the second people set a time and my granddaughter sat there and waited for them to show up and they never did. Even if they had to charge an additional time, they could have at least attempted to go out and take a look.
So then, we called the third company and that particular prepayment should have been transferred to the person who came out. It took a day and a half for the him to make it out here. Even so, when he finally came, he checked the AC and found that the problem was just a blown fuse. He reset it and it seems to be running fine now. I would recommend Home Shield to a friend without any problem.

He also said he needed to go outside and check something else.
He was only out there for seven minutes and I felt that cool air was coming out of the vent. I highly recommend American Home Shield. They have good contractors and they're always professional and friendly. They also always get on the work order as soon as you call it in. Even though we pay for our monthly fee, the warranty saves us money in the long run on everything that’s covered, especially the AC.

Our sewer line backed up recently and I got dirty water inside my house. I made the claim for it online which was simple. I had called all the companies just to see who would come first, and another company would have found out 10 minutes before I was able to contact the contractor that would come so I had to cancel the other companies. So, AHS was slow in their response. The tech arrived and did the service which was a clean-up of the line. However, it was difficult to start a conversation with him to know what the root of the problem was. But he went through the whole process with no problem at all and he fixed it.

My AC wasn't working as something electrical was going out on it. I put the claim in online and American Home Shield assigned it to a contractor that called me in less than 24 hours and set up an appointment. The tech was out less than 10 minutes and he knew what the problem was. He said the AC goes through this every year especially when there’s high heat. He was at my house less than 20 minutes altogether. Now the AC is cooling so I’m happy. However, my first claim was last winter when our pipe busted, and AHS would not replace it because of the class acts and lawsuits. There was also no notice about it. It was not anywhere in my contract and there was no addendum. I had to pay for it out of pocket so I’m not too happy there.

I’ve enjoyed the service that I’ve gotten from American Home Shield. Our refrigerator went out and I called AHS. Then we did some online after I got the claim submitted and then they sent me a response back on the computer. The person I spoke with over the phone was excellent. He gave me the exact information that I needed and the replacement item was exactly like they said it would be. The contractor who came here had a breakdown on their vehicle, so they didn’t get here in the time that they said they were going to get here, but that was understandable. They did a good work and they explained to me about the refrigerator and the filter, and hooked it up. They also gave me specific instructions on what to do and not to do for the first 24 hours. I will tell my friend not to hesitate to get AHS if they don’t have it.

My AC wasn't cooling and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield, who then sent a company out. That company came and told me that there was nothing wrong with my AC and that it was an electrical issue which was flipping my breaker. Two days later we called to get an electrician out and it was gonna be another $100. It’s the same issue and I didn’t realize that I had to pay another deductible, but I was told that I had to. American Home Shield didn't want to transfer the money that I paid for my deductible. When the electrical company called me and told me that they got the job and was scheduling an appointment, I told them that I didn't know if I wanted them to come out since American Home Shield told me that I needed to pay another $100.
That electrical company told me that I didn't have to pay as it was the same issue. They then reached out to American Home Shield who told them that what had happened was a miscommunication and that I didn't owe anything anymore. So I never scheduled the service. The unit hasn't acted up again, so I was gonna call AHS to ask if they could refund my $100. No one has ever called me to check up on it. I'm very dissatisfied. I switched to them four months ago because they were highly recommended by one of my clients and I have not had a good experience.

I like how I can call American Home Shield and get somebody out to the house within two days. It’s always quick and when I had an AC issue, the rep that I spoke with over the phone was pleasant. The contractor had to come out twice though, and I didn’t like that. He did what he could do but his explanation on what he did didn’t make sense. So when we still had the same problem after he left, I called again to try to get more clarity. Someone from the same company was sent out and he didn’t understand why the other technician phrased what he said the way he phrased it either. But there still was nothing more they could do. They pretty much blamed it on the heat. It’s extremely hot here so the AC is not gonna cool to a certain point. The AC is just a little better now than it was at first.

I called American Home Shield today because I'm having trouble with the washer and dryer. In the process of information, the rep on the line said that she'd let me talk to somebody but I never did. They asked me to leave my number and they'd call me back, but nobody's ever called me back yet. Nonetheless, I've been happy with American Home Shield and you should try them. I previously phoned in a plumbing claim for my drain that was stuffed and they sent a very good contractor. The problem was fixed.

We have a very old water heater. It was rusted and the water wasn't getting hot. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. All Shore Plumbing called me right away and their guy was at the house within a couple of hours because he was in the area. He said that the unit was very old and that it was gonna go soon. He turned the knob to put the unit on so that the water was hotter. However, I didn't wanna wait until the water heater goes because when the water heater went at the house that I was living in, there was water everywhere and it turned into mold and mildew. So what I did was I went and I personally replaced the water heater myself.
I also have a problem with my air conditioning unit and I've been in constant contact with American Home Shield. I'm thankful that they're actually helping me. They've sent a guy, who's really nice and seems knowledgeable, and he has already replaced all the coils and the unit started working at the time. However, it's not working again. So the guy came back out and he replaced the outside unit, which he said is not gonna make the summer. Then, on Friday, he replaced the piece that was burnt out and then he had me put a service call in for the furnace because he said the thermostat and the control panel are bad. He said that that was why the unit keeps running, burning the outside piece. So the fan runs but it doesn’t provide cool air to the house. I’m waiting for him to call me to tell me when he can come out because I already paid American Home Shield the money I had to pay.
I don't know if I should ask for another company because the guy told me that American Home Shield doesn't replace the actual unit and that American Home Shield would send him 20 times just to rebuild what I already have. But then, American Home Shield has told me that if something goes wrong, they would replace the whole unit. Also, to me, the contractor continuously working on the unit doesn’t seem cost-effective because when he replaced the coil thing, it cost me $900. Additionally, the coil he's replacing in the furnace is $400.
On top of that, I would pay $106 every time I place the call. I hope he’s not going step by step instead of telling American Home Shield the whole issue in the beginning. Unless he really didn’t know and it’s like trial and error. To me, if you’re an HVAC guy and you’re in the business 15 years, and you’ve been dealing with American Home Shield for 10 years, it seems like you would assess the whole thing rather than do it piece by piece. It also worries me that when I looked the guy up, I saw that he has two really bad ratings out of three.

I heard all kinds of things about American Home Shield like they will try to fix things if they’re repairable ad nauseum until they finally have to replace it. But in our particular case, we didn’t have to go through that dance. The AC wasn't working and the motor was not fixable. So they replaced the part and we were back to good. That was our first experience with them and it went perfectly.
We’re in Las Vegas and the temperature was 110 degrees. We filed the claim online immediately that weekend because the regular hours were not open to us. And they responded immediately during business hours the next day. We had to wait about three days for the contractor because it was high season and over summer in Las Vegas. But we bit the bullet and they did arrive when they said they would arrive.
The technician went up there and found out what the problem was. He indicated that getting a replacement might take a long time because there was no such part in Las Vegas. However, we got an email the next day saying somebody would be here the following day and that they had the part necessary. So it was fine. I was pleased and because of this good experience, we've upgraded our coverage. Since appliances don’t last forever, we will end up calling American Home Shield in the future, and I hope that that time will be just as satisfactory. Hopefully, they don’t disappoint us down the road.

My first experience with AHS was when my daughter's bathtub was not draining and the faucet handle broke. Local company Allstadt Plumbing came out. They ended up taking out my drain plunger and never replaced it. Told me to get a rubber stopper. They replaced my broken faucet handle with ones that do not fit. So over a year later this is still not fixed. I brought this up to AHS and they said they were aware the job wasn't complete because it stated this in the notes from the contractor. Still today NOT FINISHED nor have they attempted to make it right. Then I made another claim for my A/C. Company Nicks came out and told me I was getting a whole new A/C. Long story short, NO NEW A/C and they replaced a couple pieces. Since then my A/C runs non stop and my electric bills are outrageous!!! My house is approx. 1600 sq ft. and my electric bill runs more here than it did in my 3000 sq ft home. It runs NON-STOP and they have yet to fix it.
I was told the work done was not sufficient for this house size. More recent my kitchen sink started leaking because a PVC pipe came off, my dishwasher stopped draining and my brand new fridge is leaking water and not making ice. Guy comes out says he doesn't do plumbing and I'll have to call someone but he will order me a new ice maker because my fridge model has nothing but trouble and I needed a new fridge. (Fridge is barely 2 yrs old). NEVER GOT THE NEW ICE MAKER and for another 100 dollars a plumber came out and put pipe glue on my sink pipe and called it a day, they broke my faucet in the meanwhile but left it as is. (SAME COMPANY AS THE TUB)!
I called AHS multiple times and the last two times went through the series of events. BOTH times I was told that the person on the phone was going to contact their supervisor and tell them the situation and they promised promised promised to call back within 24 hours. NO CALL BACK EITHER TIME! This company has horrible follow through and is taking money without authorization and I have contacted an attorney.
If my issues are not resolved completely within 30 days (ALL OF THEM) American Home Shield is going to have quite a mess on their hands. I am tired of spending hours on the phone all for nothing getting resolved. They have no trouble taking money out of my MOTHERS debit card WITHOUT HER AUTHORIZATION but cant return a call to save their butts. Needless to say I will NEVER renew again. 1 time was enough and I will pass on the word about how this company is fraudulent and doesn't do the work but has no trouble taking money without authorization. They find the crappiest companies to (not) do the work!

Last of May 2018, I contacted American Home Shield to repair my A/C as it was not cooling. At that time I explained to not send a contractor that was not Carrier certified as they would not be able to purchase parts to repair. They said ok. 3 days later Complete A/C came and took 15 minutes to determine the part needed and I should be contacted the next day or 2 to come back to finalize the repair. A week passed and I called Complete A/C to see when they were coming and was told the job was turned back to AHS as they were not Carrier certified. I called AHS again and was scheduled with a new contractor. A couple days later Total Air Care (main office in central FL and I live in NW LA) who also agreed on part needed and I should be called the next day as to when they would be able to return.
Days went by and I start calling Total Air taking a minimum of 20 minutes each person I was forwarded to. After about a week on contractor showed up, looked at the part in the box and decided it was a two man job. He called another co-worker who agreed to meet up with him a couple hours later at my house and do the repair. They did not return. Each day I am on the phone with Total Air and AHS killing 2 hours a day in efforts to repair my A/C. It should also be noted that the heat index was between 105 and 109 degrees daily. Weeks later they finally show up with 2 contractors and they commence to do the repair. They remove the evaporator coil and allowed drainage to go through my light standards, stereo speakers, air vents, and worst of all the ceiling. I now have to have my ceiling repainted, air vents replaced and anything else that is needed.
The freon came through the vents and such hitting my ceiling fan and sprayed all over the living room and onto my wife and myself. They tried to hook a 4 ton evaporator coil where a 5 ton evaporator coil was needed. Because of this had to have another part as the smaller unit would not connect. One member came downstairs and said all he had to do was add freon and indicated we would have cool soon. At that time gave me the bill and wanted payment to finish. I paid $1036 and he went outside and left. The other person was still upstairs rumbling around and came down as went outside. I checked the attic and there was such a mess. The old evaporator coil was still in the middle of the floor and a mess was everywhere. The new coil was partially connected but was not taped or sealed. IF freon had been added it would have been strewn all over the attic area.
I confronted the remaining worker who said they were not finished and that his partner had gone back to the shop for parts to finish the job. 2 more weeks passed and no word from anyone but I'm on the phone each day, now twice a day, to AHS and Total Air trying to find out the status. Finally, one of the AHS people asked if I wanted another contractor and I said yes. They told me I would be contacted within 24 hours. Fifty some hours later with no response after I call the new referral and had to leave a message. I next called my A/C company that does my service and they were out the next day to determine the problem. They agreed problem as well as compressor. Twenty fours hours later I had a new unit costing me $11,600. My credit card company reimbursed my $1036 even though I went through Total Air who agreed to return my money but never did.
We also had to spend one week in a motel due to the heat that I would like reimbursement on. I was able to rough it while my wife was out of town but it continued to heat up and we could not take it any longer. I have made numerous attempts to contact AHS for someone to talk with me and determine some type of satisfactory resolve but can not get ** to contact me. So far my contract has now expired which I will not renew with AHS and have 2 other contracts with AHS that as they expire, will not renew. I was a long term customer but have learned my lesson. I feel that AHS owes me in excess of $12,000 and have not been able to make my repairs to my ceiling as of this date. I tried to work with AHS on my A/C in excess of 5 weeks!!
Good morning Tom,
I understand your frustration with your experience to have the AC system repaired through your warranty. Per the review I am aware that some secondary damage occurred to your ceiling which you are requesting a reimbursement for.

A few months ago, there was an issue with the AC where the HVAC had a violet light. United Air Temp came to repair it. Recently, my tenant was complaining that he could smell gas, so I got the Washington Gas people to come and look at the AC and they said that because of whoever repaired it, there was a leak in the gas. I reached out to United Air Temp and American Home Shield, and they forced me to create a new service request and pay an additional service request fee. In my view as a consumer, if they made any mistake in their repair, they should have covered it at least for a year or some period. It was not a new issue that was happening. It was like the issue happened because of the service.
I paid the additional service request fee because the issue was out of the 60-day guarantee of service period. Then the United Air Temp guys came. First they looked into it and said, “We need a part.” Then they went back and got the part. They tried to put the part in the fuel gasket, but it was broken because they tried to screw it too tight before. They said, “Now, we have to get another part,” so they went back again. Then they came the third time, and they ran out of time. They said, “We have to go somewhere else, so can we come back again?” The fourth time when they came, they were able to fix it. But it was a problem for me that I had to take four times. I had to come to the property and get that fixed.

It was around three weeks before I got my new heat pump through All American Air out of Panama City. They were wonderful and they fixed it. They said that American Home Shield shouldn’t have to pay for the compressor that Total Air Care used. AHS paid $1500 for a compressor that went out that was not even two weeks old. Then, their sales guy tried to sell me a whole brand new unit for $6,000. That's when I got a second opinion.
Another time, there was a leaking plumbing from the upstairs shower and it was leaking down to our fireplace. American Home Shield sent a contractor out and he said that he needed to tear apart the shower, but he couldn't do it and the company wouldn't let him do it. I had to get my own contractor to do that and then American Home Shield would cover them coming out and doing the gasket replacement. Ultimately, the whole access that the tearing apart of the shower and putting it back together was gonna be a couple thousand dollars. I then had my own non-American Home Shield related plumber come out and he looked at it, popped the new gasket in in two seconds, and that was fixed. I ended up calling sales and they patched me through. Then, I spent about 53 minutes on hold before I even spoke to somebody.
The tech came in and diagnosed it. They spent 12 minutes there, which in my eyes wasn’t enough time to make sure that the unit was working properly before they left. But they were able to come back out and they replaced the capacitor. Also, there were loose wires and they fixed the wires and they had to come back to replace the blower. I’m satisfied with AHS. It was well past their hours. I called back and yelled at ‘em. I said that we’ve never had problems like this, they are not very professional and that we’ve given them the right number to call. It was a Saturday so they couldn’t call until Monday. They then called my phone again to make an appointment.
When the man, Cliff, came out, he wouldn’t even look at me and my husband dealt with him. He was also the man that called. He said that it looked like we did this and that, but he was going to submit the claim. The next thing we know, we received a call from AHS. The guy said that the serviceman said that the issue was something we did and we're not covered if we broke the hinge on the dishwasher door. He said that we can appeal. We had to go out and buy a new dishwasher because this guy decided that that’s the way it was. It was very unprofessional. When he called me, we didn’t even wanna go into it with him. We just went out and bought a dishwasher. We just chalked it up to a bad experience.
Ramb’s Appliance worked on something in my freezer. We didn’t stand over the tech and he left with a piece. Then he accused us of swapping it out or breaking the piece. You had to have a screwdriver to get to it. We’ve told AHS that we never wanted Ramb’s to come out again. The air conditioning people, they were fabulous though. We’ve been customers of AHS for at least 10 years if not longer and almost a month ago, we purchased AHS for my aunt in Apopka. We would recommend them.

The AC failed to function properly after a lightning and a storm. The technician that American Home Shield sent was very good and very knowledgeable, and he fixed the problem promptly. He came on time and did the work in about 45 minutes. The whole process was quite smooth and efficient, too. The AC is working fine now. This is the first service that I requested from American Home Shield and I am satisfied with it. I happen to have a home warranty program with another company, but that is not as good as this one. So, overall, I’m happy and I would recommend American Home Shield.

There was an issue with our AC's fan and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. The reps have always been nice, but they told me that it would be two days for this and that, and it seemed like I was being shined on. Then it took four visits for the contractor to get the issue right. The tech replaced the capacitor, which was not the problem, then he tried something else. We were without an AC for the entire month. The issue is fixed now, but it could have been so much nicer. But we only had to pay the fee once, so that was decent.

Our Freon was all gone and the AC was leaking. I made a claim online with American Home Shield and called them as well. The person on the phone was helpful. He scheduled an appointment and when the tech was gonna come out. He told me a time and told me that someone will verify it with me and they did, and everything went well. Unfortunately, it was the hottest time of the week when we were having our heat wave and everybody there was going out so I was not first in line, but it was what it was. It took a day or two, but it was fine. The tech showed up at the time they were scheduled. He was in and out in a short period of time and fixed everything. Our AC's working fine. AHS did a great job, overall. I always recommend them to anyone getting a new home. I tell them that it’s important to have home insurance because an air conditioning going out will cost them several thousand dollars and $75 plus the premium a year is worth the cost.

I've had my warranty with American Home Shield for a year now and it has been good so far. Recently, my pool wasn't suctioning and I filed a claim, and that experience was good. I typically submit claims online and the contractors they assign generally contact me within 24 hours. For the claim with my pool, the contractor, SunBright Pool Services, has already come out once. The tech fixed something, but the pool is still not getting enough suction, and the company will come back out today. Nevertheless, with AHS, the issues can get resolved.

The fan quit working on the AC and without the fan, there wasn't any air conditioning. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield on the phone and the people there were nice and helpful. Then, the contractor came and they fixed that but three to four months went by and it started doing it again. I submitted a second claim online and the same company came back. They fixed it and also put a new motor in there, which the guy said it needed. I was happy with both experiences.

When the blower motor of the AC went out and it wasn’t circulating air, my wife filed a claim to AHS. It took two days to get the contractor out. We had an excellent interaction with them, but it took a week to get the part. I couldn't fault the contractor for it because it was a special order and it's a custom unit. As soon as he got the part, the contractor came out and fixed it. I was happy with the service. We were a little skeptical about renewing our warranty with AHS because we didn’t think we were gonna need it, but having that we used the warranty and it saved us a boatload of cash to have the AC fixed, we will be keeping AHS in the future.

I bought this house last year with Old Republic as the warranty company and when it was time to renew, I got on the internet to see who was top rated. American Home Shield seemed to be the number one company so I went with them. I filed a claim with AHS as the AC wouldn’t come on at all. It was 90 degrees outside and I thought I was gonna die. Everything went fine with the claim. AHS was great and the only thing was that the technician was late. But he had an issue with the consumer that he was working with prior to me so I could understand that. He was also very nice and he got right on it. My daughter got a new house and she needs to have this protection as well. You’ll never know when something would go out.

My air conditioner seemed to not be running cold enough and it just stayed on all day. I wanted to have a contractor come out because our units are original to the house. The house was built in ’89. I submitted a claim online through American Home Shield's website. It’s really super easy. Just log-in, select what issue is and click submit. You can even give your credit card information if they’re gonna send somebody out and it auto charges your card which is nice.
You would tell them how you wanna be contacted and I like emails. I got an email instantly both from American Home Shield and in this case, Budget AC. It was really quick for them to dispatch someone. With my schedule and their schedule, it took about two days to get out. I talked about what the issue was. They were dealing with our unit outside so the contractor went and checked it out. He came back and told me what his diagnosis was, what he recommended and then any additional cost.
He checked the Freon level and it was low so he added Freon but he also told me that because of the age of the unit, there could be a small leak. He didn’t do a test for a leak but he recommended going ahead and jacking the system with something that would help with the leak. It was an extra $100 to do that and I went ahead and said, “Yeah, let’s do that.”
With the age of the unit and the heat we’ve had this summer, it’s not super surprising that it's still not cooling as effectively as a new unit probably would. The contractor and I talked about the age of the component of the unit and it not being able to cool the house as well as something that’s a more efficient, newer unit but it has been better. Overall AHS has been great. The warranty is a very good investment and they make it really easy. We have issues and we get them resolved quickly without having to do a lot of legwork and figuring out which contractor to go to. They make it simple, straightforward and I just love them.

We previously had an account with American Home Shield when we were in our house in California and we had them for eight years. This is our second time and we’ve been with them for two years. We have continued doing business with AHS for the familiarity of it and the coverages. However, it is more expensive for us in Florida for some reason and the contract is about $200 than when we were in California.
It was easy to submit a claim to AHS and it was easy to deal with them. Most of the time, I try to go online and do it. And if there’s an issue, then I call. I’ve had three people that I referred to and when they needed the warranty at some point, they weren’t able to get the help they needed but we are fine. As for our most recent claim, AHS initially requested somebody who was 150 miles away. So, I called and told them that the company was not even near us and I doubt that they wanna drive out here to fix the air conditioner.
Then, AHS tried contacting the company, and by the next day, they had another company that they had us in contact with. My husband showed the contractor what was going on, and the contractor took care of the business he needed to take care of. He wasn’t even here two hours. Our air conditioning was running fine but the water was leaking out in the garage, which was making some of the stuff rusty. But, now, everything is fine.

I called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue on June 1st and it took a really long time for the technician to contact me to the point that I made a complaint. I gave the second technician almost three days to contact me and they didn’t respond at all to my phone calls or my text messages. I called AHS and implored them to find another technician in the area and even told them the zip code that is nearby that may not seem like it was in my area. I may be closer to that zip code than the area that they have been reaching out to.
The plumbing company didn’t come to my home and sent in an estimate in which I waited another two weeks only to find out that AHS felt that their estimate was too high and said they were going to send a second opinion. The second opinion person they wanted to send was the very first person who never responded in a three-week period in the first place. They got him on the phone while I was on the phone and we scheduled a meeting for which he came by. He was a one-person company and he complained about the really long wait times to get on the phone to do an authorization. So, I hoped to facilitate that and it finally got straightened out yesterday.
I had to get back on the phone with AHS last night because the plumber who will do the work stated that the issue in my home was not on the same ticket and they told him that they did not see the second issue when I initially called them. The wonderful woman I worked with last night on the phone made the notes and straightened it out. I heard from the technician this morning and we made an appointment for Friday next week. My greatest concern which has been brewing since June 1st is that they’ll open up and find mold. If that is the case, I want mitigation done not at my expense. We’ve gone around and around in a circle about this issue because the people who gave the first estimate did not come in and see. They said it was exorbitant and that was problematic for my home.
Customer service has very long wait times but one of the agents shared with me the times of day to call for a lesser wait time and that has been working. The reps were always very courteous and they listen but I was supremely disappointed with there not being documentation of the second issue. I would recommend AHS but this is a hiccup that should not be overlooked.

I had a water leak right at the exterior wall of my house and I called American Home Shield. I asked the operator if it was covered in the warranty and she said that it was. An estimate came through and after that, a gentleman came to service. Then, he said to me that it was not warrantied. I called the office telling them it was a mistake from their side and that the charge should be removed. They said they were gonna retrieve the first phone call and let me know. Then, I got an email saying they were gonna process the payment. I was surprised they were charging me.
I called and got a lady who was very helpful and she moved me to the billing department who looks into those kind of issues. I had to get on the line on the phone for a long time to clear this issue. Dealing with the actual people there has been excellent. It’s just this negative outlook on how they kinda dropped the ball and now, I’m waiting on the phone to get somebody to answer my question. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. They sent me 20 plumbers to fix my spigot water faucet and none of them is worth anything. None of them fixed anything. I had to go online and order stuff because they couldn't get them. They came back out to put them in and they charged me another price. But then they messed up the installation. They put the pipes too short. I could do better work than what they did. They also sent GasPro for the stove but they didn't know how to fix a stove. Another company came out and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the stove. AHS gave me my money back for it.
When I called about the water heater, they tried to find the page that the water heater was on, but it wasn’t on that page. Come to find out the water heater wasn’t even on my contract, but, then they said it was covered. Last Tuesday, a guy came here. He asked me about my water heater and wanted to see it. I took him downstairs and showed it to him. He told me it was gonna cost me $800 in modification to put the thing in it. The contract said they weren't gonna charge me anything and that they were gonna replace it. But then he said I had to pay that. They were supposed to buy me out and they told me somebody had already been out here and put one in. However, nobody has been out here and put one in.
Then, the lady who called out here asked me to schedule, I told her I was not satisfied. She asked me if I wanted to cancel but I said no. She kept getting smart and so I told her to cancel it. Then the contractors wanted to come back but I told them they ain’t coming back here, not with their attitude. I didn’t like the way they talk. We were without hot water the whole weekend: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Contacted American Home Shield (AHS) on June 30, 2018 for a non-working AC unit. As of today, August 11, 2018 it is still not fixed. Three companies have been sent out. None seemed very good at communication so each time I had to call for assistance and follow-up with AHS. Tried calling a few of the vendors a few times but none of them really gave me the time of day. Most times on hold for far too long when trying to reach AHS. One time they said I could leave my number and I would get a callback. Call back happened within minutes only to find myself on hold for over 20 minutes!
Third company that looked at unit now is proposing replacing but is adding $1,150 (see another posting on here from a guy Texas saying say amount of $1,150) of non-covered modifications (excluded in the contract but no clear explanation of what or why it needs to be done as unit was installed in past ten years and passed city and regulatory inspections). Breakdown is $500 for electrical modifications (for an existing unit that already has modern electric with a disconnect), $300 for a new line-set, $100 for a new disc-connect (wouldn't this be part of electrical modifications plus the other $500 for electric mods?), $150 for a cold pump up (no idea?) and $100 to insulate line.
First company said unit was destroyed by dog urine but yard is fenced and there is no dog. Second company didn't even diagnose. Third company tried to sell me a new unit (furnace included) but said he could give me a discount or special pricing. That sounded dodgy and more like a hustle or scam. Of course that is the company that they are supposedly going to use to replace outside unit. As a former property manager and handy-man I am going to see what actually gets replaced.
Over 40 days without AC in hot and humid Baltimore. Without a warranty I would've just had my regular and reliable company come out and address problem and it would've been fixed right away. AC units should be repaired within 10-14 days at most! Buyer beware!

We purchased a house in Rocklin, CA in June 2018. We got the AHS warranty thru the seller of the house. The AC unit started acting up… not cooling down the house from early July. Contacted AHS and they sent the first tech to check out the unit. The tech added 1.5 lb Freon and left quickly and said the system is fixed. He didn't even stay to see if this would help to solve the problem or not. Since, the problem was not solved, we called again and another tech came a few days later (hard to make an appointment for the next 48 to 72 hours as most of these contracted companies with AHS are busy due the extreme hot temperature +100 degree in Rocklin) and just replace the thermostat batteries and left quickly similar to the first one.
Setting up all these appointments and be present at home either from 8 am to 12 pm or 12 pm to 6 pm are time consuming (it’s been 5 times so far and the 6th one is scheduled for next week!!).
The AC system is old and needs to be replaced, but AHS doesn't want to do that as it cost them money. Please think about people first, it's been a month, 5 different technicians from 3 different companies have tried to fix it and they couldn't. The last call I made on 8/8/18 to AHS was to complain about the situation and they said the last tech must go back but we need to wait another 6 days as they are extremely busy at this time of the year. They offered me again the 1-star ranked company that potentially could come sooner but I’ve already lost faith on that company so I said, "NO, I'll wait to the better company to come. I am already in contact with other service providers outside the warranty and so far they all saying that the system has to be replaced."
I don't know why even people buy home warranties as you can’t really use them!! In the last 3 days, I learned that they use the lowest quality service providers who are not skilled and efficient at all. I hope someone from AHS can hear me and make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. And sorry for not being polite and kind as I tried to be for the last month, but have got really frustrated! Thank you!

Shortly after I signed the contract my AC broke. I called them, they sent a tech out, I paid a $100 service fee. The company that came out was incompetent. They did not investigate the issue and decided to replace parts. Over the course of 2 months I was on and off without AC. The company kept coming out but the AC kept going out.

The microwave and the refrigerator were at the water line and when American Home Shield sent out a technician, I waited a week and a half for them to come out. Previously, when I had an appliance fixed, they would fix it when they come out. This man was incompetent and rude and I told him that I didn’t want him in my home, and to send a different technician. He canceled the whole thing. I waited and waited. I had to call AHS and go through the whole process for somebody else to come out. They came out within a day and they fixed one immediately, and for the other, I had to wait a few days for the part to arrive. That was a good experience, although I spent about five hours on the phone with the American Home Shield reps. They were supposed to refund me the $100, which they have not, and I just checked my email yesterday and it’s showing that I owe them $100, which they already debited my account for.
That one instance was absolutely horrible and now they’re asking for more money again. I finally got through and spoke to a manager and said that she was going to credit my account, which they actually took money out the day when that horrible technician came out. They were supposed to only debit my account when the services were complete, but they took it out when nothing was done. That horrible company that came out got paid for doing nothing and what he said was completely wrong with the refrigerator. I have had their service for at least three years, but I haven’t had any problems before. Another time, I paid the contractor $100 because there was something wrong with the toilet and they were telling me that I needed to pay American Home Shield too and I didn’t respond. I wasn't paying them twice. Now, AHS collects the money and you don’t pay the technician.

They sent out a repair person who determined that the dishwasher needs a part that they are no longer making. I checked on the status of my claim and it's under review, which I expect that to be that they're gonna end up having to replace the dishwasher.
As a property owner, I've been very happy with American Home Shield. They've improved the quality of their service quite a bit in the last few years. Back in the day when the only way to contact them was to be on hold for up to an hour or more, it was very frustrating. Now they've gotten their online service and they also have a chat system wherein if we have the ability to use either an iPad or a computer, we can talk to somebody within a reasonable amount of time. I've had excellent experience dealing with them. They provide good service. For the amount of money that I pay for their monthly premium, it's well worth it.

The first and only time that we’ve used American Home Shield’s service was when the clothes washer and dishwasher took a crap at the same time. We filed the claim over the phone and the claims process went smoothly and well. The contractor that was sent out was awesome and we had great interactions. The appliances have been working perfectly since the repair. We were coming towards the end of the term of our contract with AHS and we were on the fence on whether or not we were gonna keep our warranty, but we had a positive experience with them and we ended up keeping it. AHS worked exactly as they were supposed to and they did exactly what we wanted them to do.

I've had a very good experience with American Home Shield. We had a call for plumbing last time and I was satisfied with the service. We had a leak in the tap in the kitchen faucet and I submitted the claim online. A tech came out after five to six days of wait, and he was good service-wise and work-wise. He had to replace a part inside that tap and everything worked out pretty good. I've been using American Home Shield's service for more than three years and I'm happy with it.

The online process when I submitted the claim for the microwave, dryer, washer, and dishwasher was easy. I contacted the contractor, BJ Home Appliance, two days later and the contractor set up a time. The contractor was very good and had to make multiple trips. On one appliance, he had ordered the parts and had to come back later. He was pretty quick on that. The appliances are performing good now.

An American Home Shield representative called, confirmed and set up the appointment after I submitted a claim online for the garbage disposal that was leaking. Our interactions were all positive. The contractor who came was very professional and not invasive. He was in and out, very quick, and clean. He told me what the problem was and then replaced the garbage disposal, which was what I wanted. American Home Shield does a good job and I would recommend them.

I wasn’t very happy with the contractor Dylan. They came and made statements to American Home Shield that were untrue, so I ended up asking for a recall. But AHS listened to my needs and they were fantastic. I’ve been with them for about 15 years and when I have a problem, they respond quickly and get it done.

There was a leak on the main waste drain from the kitchen and the bathroom, and the technician AHS sent didn’t show up till five days later after I called. Because I put claim in on a Friday and then they weren’t open on the weekend they didn’t get out there till Wednesday. When they came I told them a couple of things to look at and I showed them the leaking things that I had on the list.
I noticed that there was dripping onto the floor in the basement and I had taken pictures of that and at the time that they looked at it, it wasn’t really used much prior to that. That time he wasn’t able to see the leak. He just said to monitor it and then if we see anything to put in another claim. I also had one problem. The basement had flooded with the water softener and I put in a claim, but water softeners weren’t covered in that plan. Other than that, I haven't seen a leak recently. The tech fixed two other things that were leaking and replaced one that wasn’t able to be fixed. Since then it has been good.

American Home Shield has a good type of crew. The van was nice and it had a nice logo on it. It was not an old, beat-up van. The guys were also clean-cut and in uniform. They were nice. The AC wasn't blowing and they put a new capacitor in and changed some settings on the heat pump inside the house. The AC worked great at first but then it quit working again. There was a sticky float on the condensation pump so we ran some vinegar through it and we haven’t had any problems since. Our experience with American Home Shield has been good. The warranty was included in our purchase when we bought the home so thank God for that.

When we called American Home Shield to inquire about getting the service from them, they picked up their phones quickly and were phenomenal. But when it came to a claim, the wait time was horrible. So it was very deceptive. I would be on hold for over an hour. It was ridiculous. I even had to do it multiple times so the wait time was way too long.
When the person from Bell Cow came out to look at the AC to see if it could be repaired, they noticed that there were two things wrong with it and that both would need to be replaced. But when American Home Shield called me back, they told that the claim was approved for only one part. I told them that I had a copy of what the contractor gave me and they said there were two things that were wrong. The contractor had only told American Home Shield about one issue so they had to check with the contractor. That was another delay in the process and it took American Home Shield too long to get back to me to follow up on that. So I made several more attempts to find out what was going on. Finally, someone called me and said the claim was approved then they gave me what my out-of-pocket would be.
I asked the rep what was the brand name of the unit I would be getting and the rep said that the company that would be installing it was ordering everything. So if I had any questions, I would need to talk to them. But when I finally got through to the people in Bell Cow, they told me that they didn't order anything and that American Home Shield was ordering everything. I didn't know who was telling the truth in that respect but nobody could give me information as to what was the brand name of the part so I wasn't pleased with that.
Then when I asked when I could get an installation date, Bell Cow said they couldn't tell me because American Home Shield was taking care of ordering everything. American Home Shield was going to contact them when the part came in. So that was very frustrating. I called constantly, trying to find out when the install date was gonna be. At one point, Bell Cow told me that they had gotten one part in but not the other one. I asked if they had any idea when the other part may be in and they said maybe Friday. I called back on Friday but it wasn't there. I called back that Tuesday and they finally told me the second part had come in. I requested a Saturday install day but they said that they didn't have any Saturday appointments, which was very inconvenient. If I didn't have American Home Shield and I called a company on my own, I could have gotten a Saturday appointment.
I asked the scheduler, Kelly, if I could get a specific date to come out because I was off for one day and I wanted to know if they could come out on that date. But she said no. She wouldn't even try to work with me with the date that I was off. It was in the dead summer and I was roasting in my home. The whole process took a little over a month. I told them that and they told me that other people had been waiting as long. I was like, "Okay.
Kelly gave me the earliest date they could come out but I wasn't sure if I could get off for that day. I asked her if she could plug me in for that slot and then I would call her back to say if we would be able to get that. I was going to see if my husband could get off on that date. But she said no. I said, "Well, ma'am, can you work with me? I'm trying to get this accomplished." Then she said that she would hold it for a few hours. They also wanted me to pay my out-of-pocket right then and I wasn't pleased with that either. If I had called somebody on my own, I would typically pay when the job is done, not before they even showed up.
I asked Kelly if I could speak to a manager but she said that he was in a meeting. I asked if he could call me back because I was really not pleased. Then she told me that most of the holdup was my warranty company's fault. I told her that I had issues with American Home Shield too but I wanted to address what was going on with Bell Cow. She told me that the manager's name was Ron and that she would leave him a message. He was supposed to get back to me when he got out of his meeting. But I guess he's still in a meeting because I never got a call back.
I also asked Kelly if she could tell me how long the install would take and what time the technicians would be coming out. But she said that they didn't know when the technicians would be out. Once the technicians came in that morning, they would give us a call when they were on the way. So there was no schedule between nine and five, which was very inconvenient as well. The technicians called early though, between 8:00 and 9:00 AM, and they said they were on their way. They finished about 3:00 and since the parts have been installed, the AC has been working fine again. It was just the process that was horrible. This was the first time I had ever used American Home Shield with a big replacement and I was very dissatisfied. The only thing that I was pleased with was that we didn't have to pay fully for that AC unit. That was the only good part about it. But other than that, I'm not pleased with the service at all.

One of my AC systems was not working for a while. I turned it off for a few hours and turned it back on and it seemed to be working. But I called American Home Shield and submitting the claim was a very easy process. They sent a technician to find out why the unit is doing that. The guy who came out checked the Freon or Puron pressure in all the systems and realized that the radiator or condenser was covered with some sort of buildup from cottonwood trees. He cleaned all of that and it took care of the issue.
I've filed two other claims, one for the washing machine and our built-in refrigerator. They sent someone out to fix the washing machine, but for the refrigerator, the manufacturer doesn't make the needed part anymore. So the unit can't be repaired. But AHS offered to replace it up to the limits of our policy, which was $3000. It was great, but the new refrigerator was $9000. So in hindsight, I wish I had read through the policy a little bit more and added some additional coverage.

I was very impressed with the contractor that American Home Shield sent out to fix my air conditioner. The contractor told me that he was gonna come the following day, but he went the same day that I called to file a claim. He fixed the problem and I was very, very happy because the temperature was extremely hot and it got to 118. The only thing though is that it took a long time to get a representative. American Home Shield should improve on that or they should hire more people.

I had American Home Shield at my other home and I never had any problems whenever I’ve used them so I went with them. I usually submit my claims over the phone and it was good interacting with their reps.
I was disappointed that AHS paid for the parts but didn’t pay for the Freon when I submitted a claim before. I wasn’t prepared for that and I was most especially not prepared for how expensive the Freon was. They should include in their ads that the warranty doesn’t include the cost of Freon. That way, you know what you’re dealing with. When I have to call AHS, it’s when I have no money or it’s four days before payday and my biggest reason for having them is because I’m divorced and I don't know how to fix any of those stuff. Recently, Advantage Air came out and they did good. They were a very nice family and called 15-20 minutes before they came to give me time to get home so I didn’t have to take off work. Otherwise, I’d be taking off every five minutes.

It probably took a week but when the right person finally came, the repair didn't take long. He was good too. I owed 75 for that, but then a couple of days later I had to call back because my floor water was not coming out like it was previously. The man that came back wasn't even here for three minutes as he seemed to had just forgotten to do something. However, AHS took another $75 out of my account and I was really pissed. I didn't appreciate that at all. A callback should be free if it was within the time, and it wasn't even seven or eight days late that I called back. So, I stopped autopay. My A/C went bad. I submitted a claim to AHS online and I had to wait for four days until the A/C people came to see what was the problem. There were no people to come to on the weekends and I had to stay in a hotel room. The coil has a dripping leak and I had to change it and the coil was $400 which they covered. But the Freon was $800 at $80 a pound and AHS covered $10 a pound for me. Then, the issue was bad again. I called AHS and the people they assigned never showed up. So, I brought a company from outside to fix it and I paid out of my pocket.
The major issue was that they were not there when I needed them. I have a mother in dialysis and I have kids in the house. I need somebody to come. I’ve been with AHS for maybe six months and I didn’t choose them for anything except for the A/C and they let me down. I don’t know what was in my mind that first time to wait for four days. It's an A/C issue in Texas at 100˚. I should’ve have just brought somebody from the outside and give him a couple of $100 and a, “Thank you so much, bye.”

They were professional and their speed of service in taking care of the problem was excellent. It was an after-hours call when I called it in, and they took care of me the very next morning. Everything seems to be working fine since the repair. However, I was disappointed with the Freon reimbursement. AHS is now only reimbursing $10 per pound of Freon, and in prior lifetimes of American Home Shield, when I’ve had service calls, Freon has always been covered, unless they’re not standard Freon. Anybody that has ever came from AHS has had good professionalism and I’m satisfied, but I got a claim right now that has been a little difficult. My AC was not working well and I paid $55 for Freon and I didn’t know that was something they had to do. It was disappointing that I gotta pay for Freon and it still didn’t work. The technician who initially looked at it didn’t report to American Home Shield the actual issue I was having. He said that everything was reading out fine but he didn’t follow it up. When the temperature was set for 72, it was only really reaching 76. So, right now, I have a window AC in my house to get the thermostat a little closer to a comfortable level. With the window unit, it’s only getting to about 74.
Also, where I am in Delaware, there’s not a lot of contractors, so our contractors are coming from over an hour away and that is an issue. I had an AC issue in Mansfield and American Home Shield couldn't find anybody. It was during the Fourth of July week and the company, which was YMC Heating & Air, didn't get here until the 10th. It was a long time. YMC called me and set up an appointment and I gave them the tenant's number to also coordinate through them. I always tell the company to not discuss things with tenants and to call me and tell me what's going on but for some reason, YMC didn't call me.
Whatever they did, they went on and fixed the issue. I ended up calling the tenant because it took so long to get the job done. That was really bizarre. Also, there’s language barrier. I don’t understand the contractor and the contractor doesn’t understand me when I explain that there is a problem. My warranties with American Home Shield are extremely valuable. I have so many properties that I'm paying them $800, but I've thought of jumping ship because I've been with them for a few years now.

AC went out on my property three weeks ago. American Home Shield contracted with AZ Plumbing and Air for in West Palm for the service call. A quick google search rates this company 1 of 5 stars with terrible reviews. They came out on a Thurs and said they would not be able to fix the issue until Monday. Due to this I was forced to put the tenant up in a hotel over the weekend. Well less than 2 weeks after the "fix" the unit has stopped working again. Another call to American Home Shield on Thurs and I've been told the service provider cannot make it out until Monday to examine (keep in mind it's nearly 90 degrees).
I called and paid another a/c company to come out and service the unit. The company stated that the unit needs replacing. I've reached out to AHS 3 times over the last two days trying to figure out how to facilitate purchasing a new unit and have been put on hold each time (yesterday for 30+ minutes, today for 50+ minutes and 12+ minutes) before being hung up on. I'm now on hold for the 4th time in 2 days. I've started recording the calls as it's almost comical how horrendous their customer service is.
