My wife submitted the claims with American Home Shield and the technicians that came out were professional and knowledgeable. We've only used AHS three times and two out of the three contractors were good. The tech who came out for the hose was rude, but then we had somebody else come out and finished off the job. Everything works fine since the recent repair.

I submitted a claim for my air conditioner for the second time with American Home Shield. The first time, their contractor looked at it and did something to it, but then it broke again. So, early Saturday morning I called AHS and the girl I talked to was super nice and really helpful. I didn’t think I was gonna get anyone because I didn’t know if they were open on the weekends, but she submitted all of my stuff that day. The contractor that they hired came out and looked at my air conditioner the very next day. It just got fixed yesterday and we had a great experience with the contractor. I'm satisfied with AHS overall, and their contractors are really nice all the time.
There was an incident though that I wasn’t too happy about. My oven broke and it was a really old oven, so they gave me a replacement oven, but I gave the wrong measurements. So the stuff that they sent me were for the different measurements. I called AHS back to tell them I got the measurements wrong, and they sent me a list of ovens that I could choose from that were of lower quality than the original set that I got. They said it was because I didn’t give them the right measurement. So, they deducted the amount that I could use to get off of my oven and I thought that was crazy. I felt like they penalized me for making a small mistake. AHS is really good with timing but customers must be careful and make sure they get everything right the first time because AHS will make them pay for it.

A week ago, my garage door remote stopped working, but when you press the button on Wall the garage opens. I called my home warranty to ask them if covered. They informed me over the phone that if I place a service call $75 fee, the technician will come out and repair it and if couldn’t be fixed, it will be replaced for no additional fees. 4 days later, technician comes out. He spends less than 5 mins looking at the outside of garage unit and then reported that the entire system is broken!!! Even though it still works with a push of a button! Shocks me. He leaves without fixing it stating that I AM responsible for ordering and paying for a whole new system from Amazon.
He said if I need him back to install that he will charge ME $100 fee for installation. I then call customer service to get a resolution. I was on hold for over an hour that I actually took a screenshot of the time I was on hold. I finally have someone that answered. I spent another 7 minutes telling them my whole story. The person put me on hold then the line disconnected. They never called me back even though, they verified my number as they first answered. Bottom line, my garage is still broken and I was still charged $75!

We had American Home Shield Warranty send out a technician for our heat pump we had our thermostat set at 70 but it was getting up to 80 degrees. The technician said it was caused by a dirty filter. I informed him I had changed the filter several times before and it didn't help but he insisted it would fix the problem. I changed the filter an hour later but by that evening it was back up to 80. I called AHSW and ask them to send someone from another company but they said I would have to pay another service fee of $100. I am not happy about having to have the same company back out to fix something they should have done right in the first place but I don't have another $100. I am very dissatisfied with this warranty and how it works.
Hello, Kenneth. I apologize that your issue was not resolved correctly the first time the tech came out to service your A/C unit. We do have to send the original company out for the recall but I completely understand your concerns with that same company. AHS SUCKS! Life expectancy of AC is 15-20 years. Mine is AC is 35 years old. AHS has been out 4 times since June putting bandaids on my AC. This time, part ordered, no idea when part will be found; plus $400 Freon I must pay. I asked the serviceman what does it take to get a new AC, because mine is clearly dying. He said when the repairs exceed the value of a NEW AC, $5000-$6000??? Bottom line you’ll never, ever get AC replaced. I worked as Property Adj. for 15 years, and this is BS!!! AHS is a scam. Meanwhile it’s been hot and elderly people live in house.
Hello, Shelley. I apologize that you have had so many service requests on the same unit over the past few months. AHS replaces units daily, and the repairs do not have to exceed the cost for a new unit. We would like to assist you with your service request, can you submit your covered property address including the zip code via the private message option?

I was a customer that paid over a year without a claim. The first claim with American Home Shield was not fulfilled as promised. I made multiple calls and Customer Support called the technician that is representing them and after 30 days I gave up. I called AHS 14 times and talked with service dept. and with upper management and received nothing but a disappointment. I was robbed over 60$ a month for over a year and a $125 service claim fee which was never completed. ON TOP OF AN EARLY CANCELLATION FEE OF THEIR CONTRACT FOR ANOTHER $23. UTTERLY RIDICULOUS AND DISGUSTING.
Hello, Brent. I regret to hear that you had this experience on your one and only service request and it resulted in the cancelation of your policy. A Social Media Specialist will be reaching out to discuss your concerns.

Horrible experience with American Home Shield. Told different things by different representatives. They weren’t able to provide anyone in our area to help as they said they would! We canceled our service request with them, and paid for a service technician on our own. They ended up taking the fee out of our account anyway. Now we’re waiting for a refund and every time we call they tell us a different answer on how long it’s going to take. First it was 48 hours, then it was 7-10 days and now they say 14-21 days! I can’t believe what a horrible experience it’s been! Will not be renewing our contract! Don’t waste your time or money with this company!
Hi, Suzi. We apologize that you have had an issue with your service fee being taken although you canceled the service request. Can you please submit a covered property address including the zip code?

I logged an AHS service request online on 8/10/18 to have my refrigerator fixed. After multiple failed attempts by the AHS appliance repair contractor to fix the refrigerator the unit still hasn't been fixed up until today and AHS has refused multiple times to authorize a second opinion to get this issue resolved. The appliance repair company AHS is using has been rude and condescending and not customer friendly and strongly feels this issue is not urgent and in the meanwhile we have lost so much food and no functioning refrigerator to this day.
We bought a mini fridge and a couple of coolers to keep our medication and other essentials cold while waiting endlessly for AHS and its contractor to fix our fridge. I've call AHS multiple times in the past 4 weeks requesting for an update and an expedited resolution and their answer has been and continues to be that there is nothing they can do to help me as long as the appliance repair service company they are using continues to claim they can fix it, even though they've failed multiple times and our food continues to spoil on a weekly basis. Plus, each time I've asked to speak to a manager to explain my situation the customer service representative would hang up on me. I want everyone to know that if they get caught in this mad spin by AHS that they plan to frustrate you and not replace your refrigerator even though they know they cannot fix it in the hopes that you will walk away and replace your refrigerator yourself.
To this day I’ve had no resolution and plan on ending my contract with AHS and will buy a new fridge rather than waiting on AHS and it’s contractor to resolve this issue. Plus, I want everyone to be aware of the section of the AHS contract that ensures they are not liable for damages their practices may cause (see line item - #8):
General Limitations of Liability7. AHS will not be liable for any violations of federal, state and local laws, regulations or guidelines prior to the beginning of the contract term and will not perform repairs or replacements that violate any current federal, state and local laws, regulations or guidelines.
8. AHS is not responsible or liable for secondary, incidental, and/or consequential loss or damage resulting from the malfunction of any covered item, or a Service Contractor’s neglect or delay in providing, or failure to provide, repair or replacement of such item, including, but not limited to, food spoilage, loss of income, utility bills, additional living expenses, personal and/or property damage.
9. AHS is not responsible or liable for any delay in service or failure to provide service caused by conditions beyond AHS’s control.10. In the event you threaten to harm or actually harm the safety or well-being of: (i) AHS; (ii) any employee of AHS; (iii) a Service Contractor; or (iv) any property of AHS or the Service Contractor, you will be in breach of this contract. In the event you breach this or any other obligation under this contract, AHS may refuse to provide service to you and may cancel this contract. Buyer beware…

The day we moved in the A/C broke. We contacted AHS. Their repairman stated he had to order the part and it would take 2 weeks. Our house is 88 degrees inside. I asked AHS if we could have another company come out to do the work, they stated they couldn’t and provided no reason. We also needed our sump pump to be fixed and they stated that the policy was not paid in full, therefore they couldn’t send anyone out. The policy IS paid in full as of the day we closed on the house. I have tried to contact them to discuss this issue, they continue to place me on hold. I have been on hold for hours. I also asked to speak with a supervisor and they placed me on hold again. They are not prompt or professional with their service. It is impossible to get in touch with someone who will help. I would never purchase this again.

I woke up Saturday morning July 14th 2018 to the sight of a water spot about a foot long and six inches wide on my bedroom ceiling spanning across the wall to another spot of similar size in the hallway. I promptly retrieved a ladder to enter my attic in Phoenix, AZ and found that the auxiliary pan under our Air Handler was full of water and leaking through holes onto the ceiling below. I called AHS that same day at 2:32p local time and started an expedited claim due to the active damage occurring because of the faulty components. I was informed that if AHS could not schedule a technician to come out within four hours then I could call back and get approval to use Outside Authorizations to have someone stop the problem.
At 6:49p I received no communications from AHS so I called in and asked if I could call a technician to come out since they were unable to schedule one, the rep said that Authorizations was closed and I would not be covered if I called a company myself that evening and I would have to wait until the next day to have someone come out. After explaining again that there was water actively leaking into my home (damages which AHS does not cover, therefore doesn't have an interest in) I reluctantly accepted her statement after multiple clarifications and waited until the following morning when I received a call at 9:08a. I was informed that I was approved to get outside authorization for a repair company of my choosing, I also asked about why I could not get this done the previous evening and I was informed that the Authorizations department was not closed at the time of my previous call and I was misinformed.
Meanwhile I had bailed out the water from the auxiliary pan and placed a pyrex dish under the area of the Air handler that was leaking to prevent further water damage. The dish which barely fit under the Air Handler would fill up about every 8-12 hours and I had to climb into the attic which can reach temperatures up to 140 degrees while it is 115 degrees outside to dump the water into a bucket to dispose of. I called four HVAC repair companies before I found one who said they are willing to work with AHS (the Technician has to contact AHS Authorizations prior to doing any repairs and the companies refuse to do so). These are major companies too, Alaskan, Penguin, and Shamrock Air all declined to agree to calling AHS for Authorizations; probably because they know the run-around you get when real repairs or replacements are needed.
I finally got a company to agree to work with AHS and send out a technician and they gave a diagnosis that the auxiliary and primary drain pans have corroded and are in need of replacement. Being that the Air Handler is 33 years old they explained it is overdue for replacement but they would attempt to find replacement parts first. They contacted the manufacturer Lennox and found that the primary pan is no longer manufactured and cannot be replaced. To solve the true problem, the Air Handler needs replacement. The repair company informed me they were unable to contact AHS and on 07/16/18 at 8:42a I called AHS and spoke to Alexia to provide information on the diagnosis I received. She said they needed to speak to the repair company before authorization to do any work can be given, and without authorization I would not be reimbursed for any repair costs.
I offered to send in the written diagnosis I was provided and she declined; I then provided the HVAC companies contact info and was told that AHS would attempt to contact them. From 07/16/18 to 07/24/18 I contacted the repair company multiple times to see if they were able to contact AHS but they had been unsuccessful, I also called into AHS no less than five times to be hung up on twice after a 56 minute and 45 minute hold to get through to Authorizations. Finally on 07/24/18 the HVAC company was able to connect to AHS and they said AHS would be reaching out to me about the authorization to do the repairs. I received a call directly from AHS's contracted company Veteran Air to schedule an appointment to have a technician come out with no explanation of why the diagnosis I had already received and spent over a week trying to connect the repair company to AHS was not being taken into consideration.
Veteran Air's first available appointment was for Wednesday 08/01/18 between 8a-11a, so I booked it and continued to climb into the attic daily to dump the water to prevent more damage which is of no concern to AHS. I informed my boss I would be in late to work and on Wednesday I waited until 11a with no communication from AHS or Veteran Air. I called into Veteran Air and they informed me they were running behind and the tech would arrive between 11a-1p. At 1:00p I called again and they said it would be within the hour. At 2:00p I called again and was told it would be another hour.
All the while I am passing the messages onto my boss which makes me look bad. The techs finally arrived at 3:00p and made some adjustments to the drain pipes and confirmed that the auxiliary and primary drain pans were heavily corroded and recommended replacing them. They spent an hour outside my house and the came back in and informed me that they contacted AHS and recommended these replacements but would have to go to the office to get a quote on parts and get further authorization from AHS.
I was told that AHS should contact me with how we would proceed with the repairs. Come 08/03/18 I have received no communications from Veteran Air nor AHS so I called AHS at 6:40p and the rep said they were told all repairs were complete and the job was done. I informed her that this was not accurate and even the written diagnosis from Veteran Air as well as the previous diagnosis state otherwise that component replacements are needed. She told me AHS would have to contact Veteran Air but since it was Friday evening I would have to wait for a callback on Monday 08/06/18. Well Monday evening rolls around and once again I have heard nothing, no missed calls, no emails, nothing so I call AHS at 7:72p and am told that Authorizations are processing and that AHS will contact me the next day.
On 08/09/18 at 3:50p I have once again heard nothing for two days so I call into AHS and speak to Tarius who says that he sent an email notice to Veteran Air which should have been sent already and they will contact me once they talk to Veteran Air to confirm there are still repairs needed. On 08/10/18 I call in again and get the same story that AHS had no idea there is still work to be done and they will contact Veteran Air and get back to me. On 08/14/18 I have still heard nothing, I call in at 9:21 to Authorizations and get the same story, halfway through the conversation the line goes dead. I call right back at 10:00a and after another 30+ minute hold time I explain the entire situation and am told once again they will contact Veteran Air and get back to me. Five times in a row over almost two weeks I have been told the same lies by five different AHS reps and have not received a single callback or email.
All the while I still have a pyrex dish under my Air Handler to catch any excess water because the auxiliary pan will leak into my ceiling otherwise and I have to climb into my attic daily to check on it. It is now 09/03/18 and I have not received any communication from AHS or Veteran Air since my last calls into AHS on 08/14/18. This company has no integrity or respect for a paying customer and has turned a relatively simple problem into a very real nightmare. I am determined to have these repairs completed and paid for by AHS as they are absolutely covered in our contract for the most expensive Shield Complete plan.
I have had to resort to seeking legal counsel as AHS has repeatedly lied to and ignored me to avoid holding up their end of our contract. This is simply unacceptable and I hope this review helps others avoid this terrible experience. Save the money you would spend on this company to cover any repairs you may need and you will also save yourself the headache of a lifetime if something serious needs to be fixed and you expect AHS to pay.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

It is getting harder to submit claims with AHS. When you call them, it is impossible to get somebody. We’ve been with them for years and it is getting worse and worse. When I call, I talk to people from all over the world and I’m really frustrated with that. It is so hard to understand these people and half of them don’t know what they’re talking about. I live in America and I wanna speak to an American.
When I call AHS, I say I want service on something. I’m not a mechanic and I can only say my dishwasher is a GE and it is not working. But they wanna know all kinds of stuff. Why would I call them if I knew what to do? Plus, over the years, a lot of times, I got people that came here who had no idea if they were leaving. I’d tell them to leave and send me somebody else. I’m paying $800 a year plus $75 a visit then I get somebody who doesn’t know what to do. We had experiences where we had problems with the air conditioner. The guy came and pumped Freon then we had to pay for it, but the air conditioner wasn’t working. We had to call them back and they drained it because the guy overfed it. And I just paid a steep price for the Freon.
At another time, my wife called in a claim with AHS for the pool heater and the contractor came a little over a month ago. He was excellent and a perfect gentleman. He came back when he said he would come back with a part. The pool heater had a leak and he fixed it. But my heater is in service now. I don’t use it that much though. I have my granddaughter here and the water was a little cold, so I turned it on but the thing was still not working. I really need the guy to come back, but AHS is gonna charge me another $75 and I don’t wanna pay that again.
We live in a community where we have this neighborhood page where people ask questions for help. One night, they had gotten on the topic about home warranties and I was the only one that fought for American Home Shield. They had every company you can imagine under the sun. I said that I’ve been with AHS for 14 years and I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. But it is really hard when they start bringing up things. All in all, AHS has been excellent with me but they lack communication. Still, I’m satisfied with them and I have recommended them to others.

The timer knob on my dryer went out, and American Home Shield sent out Mr. Appliance of Macon to work on it. Charles, the service technician, came once and he had to replace the knob and the switch on the door. He was great. I had to call again and Charles checked everything, and he told me to make sure that the door was closed all the way. So, that was helpful, with me having back surgery. He was just really patient and understanding. He didn't try to do a rush job, so I really appreciated that. The dryer is a whole lot better now. If you are buying a home, it's beneficial and economical to invest in American Home Shield because you never know what could go wrong with your house at any given time. If you have American Home Shield, you have that peace of mind that if something does happen, they are there for you.

I have submitted all of my claims with American Home Shield's online. Their online claim system is very easy and I always get a very quick assignment to a contractor. So far, none of the claims I've had including the garbage disposal were big claims. They were all service appointments that could be handled in one visit. The only difficulty I had with AHS is that I don't get too much information whenever my contract renewed each year. I signed up for email only and I might get one email, but if I miss the one email, I won't know, versus other people that when you're on email they still communicate quite a bit. They do what I ask which is email only, but it is very limited email which is different than most vendors do it.
The recent contractor scheduled an appointment right away. I had communication as they were coming to the appointment, so I know what time they would be here. They were all prepared to process it through American Home Shield so they knew what the copayment was, and everything was fine. They gave some education for me to explain things I could do to prevent the garbage disposal from going off the rails in the future. I have recommended American Home Shield to several neighbors.

He was very professional and quick. He contacted me the afternoon before he was supposed to come out. He said that he was in the area and asked if we would mind if he came out. He came out after 8 o'clock in the evening and was able to diagnose the situation quickly and replace the part and got it working, which was amazing considering it was in the summer and it was hot. We've been American Home Shield customers for 20+ years and the contractors sent out by AHS have always been able to fix the issues so I'm very grateful for them. My son bought a house in Atlanta and on our recommendation, he also got an American Home Shield warranty contract. I've got another son who lives in Denver and his warranties are gonna go out so I'm gonna buy them a policy as a gift. By far, it is the best thing a homeowner can own. It's great.
When our AC wasn't running, I went online to file the claim. That process is easy and perfect. I love it. The contractor took a little bit longer to come out for that claim only because of the time of the year that it happened. It was also really hot and maybe a lot of people were calling in. But Allied Plumbing actually was able to come out within a day because they had a cancellation and they were awesome. They explained everything to my husband and fixed what they thought the issue was. They also left information and instructions on what we needed to do and to call about in case the AC went out again. But it hasn't. It actually runs better now than it did before.

When I was having problems with my AC, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I also called them a couple of times. It took two appointments for the motor to be replaced and I’ve always had problems with communication. Right now, they’re still billing me for the same service fee even though it was paid on the first appointment. I’m constantly wasting time making sure that my account is active, without a balance, and I’m still getting emails saying that I have a past due amount, which I don’t. I called them and they kept telling me that it was gonna take me three weeks for my account to be updated, but it’s already September.
Dean’s Shop, the contractor, told my dad that they were gonna stay there until the motor was up and running again, so my dad was very satisfied with the service that they provided. They were also very polite. Since the repair, everything has been fine. It’s pretty nice that I can just pay a monthly fee and I don’t have any worries regarding any appliances in my home. I would recommend AHS but I was just sad about my experience with this last claim.

We recently had an issue with the AC and that had something to do with the fan on the unit that was outside of the house. How I submit claims to American Home Shield all depends on what it is and if I really need to talk to the reps or how much time I’ve got before I need to really get it fixed. Most of the time, the reps are very helpful. Every once in a while though, if they are overwhelmed and there have been a lot of calls, they are not as nice. Still, they generally are.
As far as the contractors that they send out are concerned, we’ve had some that really had no clue. So then we had to call and get another one, and we had to wait. But if we could get the right person and the right company or man, they could come in and get the whole thing straightened out. We’ve had a couple of situations where the contractors were able to come right in and get the problem fixed within a reasonable amount of time and everything has been fine. American Home Shield never sends the same contractor although we may have a similar problem. It could be a leak problem and we could get two different plumbers. Or we could have a heating problem and we could get two different people. So we don’t know who we’re getting. It’s potluck.
The last air conditioning guy that we had come in, knew exactly what the issue was because he had been to the house before. He said the AC was gonna go out, so he fixed it and it was all taken care of. So we can get some really good contractors but we can also get ones that are a big problem, like one guy that we had. It took three and a half weeks to get our heater fixed in the middle of the winter and it was because the contractor ordered the wrong part. The guy didn’t know what he was doing so American Home Shield sent out three different teams before they got the right one together. Then the tech was able to fix it. But before that, we had to use a one-room heater. So whatever room we were in, the heater was in. That was how bad it was. So it’s not all positive with American Home Shield, but it’s not all negative either. Still, if someone is old and can’t fix things anymore, you gotta have one of those things.
American Home Shield really needs to vet their people a bit better and maybe they will improve their services. They did well on the air conditioning side this time so I hope to goodness we do not have another heating issue. They’re doing great on their plumbing side as well. American Home Shield is still a good company and it’s not terribly expensive. If you are by yourself, it makes you feel better that you can call somebody and it is not gonna cost you $5000.

There was a leak coming from the backside of the refrigerator so I submitted a claim online and that was a very good experience. But I selected a weekend appointment so I had to wait for the next weekend. It was five to seven days before Sears came out but once they did, they did a very good job. They fixed the issue within an hour. This was my first experience with American Home Shield and it was very good for me. I would recommend them.

The ceiling fan and the light in my mother-in-law's room were not working so I got online and submitted a claim American Home Shield. Submitting the claim online was really easy. I like being able to do it that way, to go in and pull up our account, and submit the request for service. They then communicate through either email or text. The contractor was great too. We've had the same contractors out before and this guy has always been good. He was very prompt and he got the job done and the issue resolved. Their contractors always call right away to set up the appointment. American Home Shield has always been easy to work with and we've never had any trouble getting any work orders filled. I was having an electrical issue and making sure that it wasn’t permanent, so I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. Everything was filled out on the claim and we were assigned a contractor. Within 24 business hours, the contractor contacted me and made arrangements to come out and resolve my issue. The person from the contracting company that I talked with was professional. The contractor came out the next morning within the time frame that was given. The electrician told me what the problem was and corrected it. I had thought that the issue was an electrical fire, but it was just mercury escaping from the bulb. He said the light fixture had three other bulbs on it, so he removed that bulb and made sure that it didn’t damage the light fixture.
I’m very happy with the timeliness of AHS' service, which was unlike the other warranty company that I had where I had to wait on the phone for hours to request for repair. Even though this other company had an option of going online to do the request, it never worked properly. But with AHS, I like the convenience and professionalism. I would recommended them to others and I have already done so. AHS is doing a superb job.

When our icemaker in our refrigerator stopped working, I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and a local vendor came to fix it. I didn’t have to talk to anybody when I submitted the claim. Doing it online was easier than calling because it’s immediate and a lot of times when you call, it’s put on hold. I usually get a text message saying that my claim has been scheduled with X provider, gives me the phone number and then the provider contacts me directly.
The contractor did a good job. I had two separate service professionals from the same company. One came out to assess the issue and then the other one came out to do the install, and they were both very professional, very kind, courteous and clean. The first time they came out, they had to check the issue and then they had to order some part. That took about two weeks because the part was on backorder. But once the part came in, they came out and fixed it and so far, so good. We have been with American Home Shield for almost nine years now and we have always had good and prompt service. The local providers that AHS contracts with are very good, and I hope AHS continues to find good service professionals to partner with.

Something was shorted out in our hot tub and it wouldn't turn on. I called in and filed a claim with American Home Shield. I had three different claims to call in on one day and their reps were fine. Knock Out Pools came out for the hot tub in a couple of days. They had to order the parts then they brought them back out. The technician was really nice and he told me what happened, but he didn't know how it happened. It was only a two-year-old hot tub and it was kinda weird that it would short out. Also, when I first moved in and turned it on, the colors changed on the lights in the hot tub. But they didn't change anymore, so I asked if the tech had any idea why they didn't change anymore. He said that I had to call the company that did the hot tub and it should be under warranty. Anyway, it seems to be working, but I've gotta find somebody to show me how to clean this thing out.
I also had a plumbing issue and had a dispute on the claim I submitted for it. American Home Shield charged me the $75 service call and I can't even tell how many $75 service calls I had paid with plumbing issues, but it would only be fixed temporarily and it never got done. I ended up having it done but I spent over $35,000 getting all my plumbing fixed. I kept getting a bill for $75 service call for the last call that I made for the plumbing issue. They charged me only to be told later that I was capped out and they couldn't do anything else for me. I asked if they could please waive that fee then because I've had the same people come out to fix those things and they've already paid all they could. They should have told me that, so I wouldn't have done it that way. I would gladly pay for anything that I got issues with and when I call in, I pay the service fee right then. Hopefully, I don't get anything else on the plumbing. Their rep said she was gonna talk to somebody and have that waived for me.
I've had American Home Shield in the past on houses in the 90s and I was surprised at all the changes and all the lack of coverages that they have now as opposed to when I had it last. I expected that it was gonna be the same but there are a lot of stuff that they don't cover anymore, much to my dismay. I have a Jacuzzi tub in one of my bathrooms and it wouldn't start, so I called and put in an order to get it fixed. American Home Shield called me and said that they couldn't remove the panel from the side of the tub and I had to pay somebody extra money to remove it for them, so they could have somebody fix it. Something is wrong with that picture and it should be their job to move that out and fix that.
Then, when the plumbers were here, they had to call in and get authorization from American Home Shield every time they wanted to do something, and that would end up taking two hours for them to move forward. They would be sitting out on their truck to get the authorization. So it is not the same American Home Shield that I dealt with in the past and I've been really disappointed with the changes. I've also heard a lot of people say the same thing lately because they are experiencing the same thing, too and that is not good. There are a lot of new companies out there that are doing it the same way American Home Shield used to do it and that would be a consideration for me when my warranty expires.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioner and it took over a week for someone to come out. The contractor left it open from last year because it was towards the end of the summer and I told them that it needed to be replaced and we had out of pocket cost. Also, I keep on getting an email saying that I owe $75, which I do not owe. I've had four people verify that and I still get the emails about it.
We waited until the next year and called them when it was getting close to spring. We said we were gonna do something and asked them to give us a little bit more time. They were cool with it. When it was time for them to come out, we called them and said we were ready to do the deal. They told the people that were supposed to come out and fix it. I waited and waited. I called the company that was supposed to replace my air conditioner and they never answered the phone. After a few days, I ended up calling AHS back and found out the company was out of business and nobody knew that.
AHS sent another person out and I had to wait another four days, but they didn't work on that kind of unit. I had to wait again and by then I was a bit pissed. I talked to a supervisor and they had somebody come out on a Saturday. I still had to wait another three days for that. I wasn't happy with that part. I've had to make 15 phone calls to get everything fixed. Still, everybody was always helpful and I didn't have any issues with anybody that I talked to.

We had to wait for a part to be ordered and the guy told us that it could come in within five business days, including a weekend. Our small unit air conditioner sounded like it was running fine from the outside but I noticed that it wasn’t blowing any cold air upstairs. I turned it off, let it sit then turned it back on but still nothing. We had just changed the filter so I made sure that the filter was properly placed and not backwards, but then, no air. I clicked that off, clicked the fan on and still no air although the unit was running.
We have a service contract with Black Diamond for maintenance of our generator and I just signed up with them a month ago to do a scheduled maintenance every year for our air conditioning, furnace, and Generac. I had them come out because they won't charge me if it's something that is super quick or if it was just Freon. There's a cap on Freon with American Home Shield so I would have just paid for it to get it going on a Sunday. The guy came out and the evaporator coil was frozen. He said there was nothing he could do, but most likely, there was a leak and they had to let it thaw so I weighed my options if I had to wait.
I put in a service call to American Home Shield and the gal there was on top of it and was checking to see if she had anybody available to come that day. She called me back in the afternoon and an hour later, the guy from At Your Service Heating and Cooling came out expeditiously. He diagnosed the problem and said that they would put in a request for authorization. He also said that whatever needs to be done would take about an hour or so depending on issues. I started trying to figure out where I could fit it and today at 3 o’clock would have been great. But I didn’t hear from the contractor this morning. On my ride home, I called At Your Service and the tech told me to call the office. I did that and left a message but I didn’t have a callback during the 45-minute period I was picking up my daughter from daycare and driving home. So, I called again when I got home from meeting my other daughter off the bus and nobody answered.
I called AHS and asked the rep if she could call the contractor. Usually, I’ve had really good experiences with people getting authorization same day or next day, but for this instance, it’s not true. There was nothing wrong with the tech and he’s been out here before. We bought the house December 29th and then we hadn’t moved in yet and there was carbon monoxide leaking outside off the charts from the large furnace. So At Your Service replaced that and that gentleman happened to be there for that install so I remembered him. He was professional and nice and we had a great experience.
All the guys from At Your Service that I’ve dealt with have been really nice when they were here. But it was frustrating for me when my daughters are gonna have another hot and sweaty night. It's 82 degrees, and they are upstairs so I'm disrupting their schedules during the week if I move them to a different room. Air conditioning is not the end of the world, but with our hectic lives, it’d be nice to have this rolling especially since it doesn’t seem that big of an issue to correct. The contractor hasn't even called American Home Shield to get authorization for what needs to be fixed.
We were out for hot water for five days and it was frustrating to wait. I had to boil water and my daughter and I took a bath together. Also, my husband who showers twice a day had to take cold showers. But when you’re facing $2,500 to $3,500 for a 75-gallon hot water heater, paying $350 is worth the wait but I would recommend for AHS to decrease their policy time of 48 hours to respond to a claim.
Aside from that, I’m glad that the service is available for people like me who bought a house that sat for two years and knowing that we’re facing interminable bills in regards to breakdowns so it’s an excellent service. AHS has been a great company and they don’t take it personally when I’m mad and I can’t get somebody out here. Overall, it’s been a very good experience and if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely sign up with AHS.

It was determined that there was something wrong with the timer which the tech had to replace. He had to order a part so he came back in within a few days and installed it. He also had to make a couple other adjustments with the washing machine. For the second claim, the tech had to replace an element in the dryer. He had the part with him so he was able to do that and the whole thing took half an hour. Both of the contractors have been very nice and competent and the appliances work fine now. I recently signed up with American Home Shield about a year ago and I was happiest when I did. I'm retired and my money's tight and I can't afford to have a major repair replacement. We got our AC system 10 years ago and if that system goes out, the other companies will give me up to $1,500 or in one case $3,000 to replace it. But it was a $12,000 system so that would not even make a dent in. We're down here and we've got to have something done right away so I would've been up to creek without a paddle. And apparently American Home Shield replaced the whole thing so that's why I went with them. They're a little more expensive but you pay for what you get so I'm happy with it.

American Home Shield has been wonderful and I haven't had a problem with them, except that I ordered a replacement refrigerator, but it didn’t have an icemaker. The service call was for the icemaker that was not working, but when the tech fixed it, it has not been as cozy as it used to be and we are praying on it that it would keep working because it has gone bad. They didn’t have a part for the icemaker. I ordered a refrigerator with an icemaker and clicked on the thing like they told me.
Yesterday, it got delivered and it didn’t have an icemaker, so I refused delivery. It was not what I ordered. Now, American Home Shield is supposed to be working it out for me and the rep is supposed to be calling me today or Thursday about that. The first rep said that I refused the refrigerator, but I said that it did not have an icemaker that’s factory-installed. The rep told me about a restocking fee, but I said to her that I wasn’t doing that at all because they sent me the wrong stuff.
However, I never get them right when I call and it would be nicer if I could deal with a person most of the time. The rep was nice on the phone. She told me the process that she was gonna send me something in the mail and I was amazed. She had a replacement model an hour after we talked and when I read it, the replacement model said “Factory-installed icemaker”. After I refused delivery, she put me on the phone for 20 minutes and when she came back, she had a different tune. She said that I was correct that it was supposed to come with the factory icemaker.
The delivery people didn’t really know what they were supposed to be doing and that helped with the confusion. I’m waiting for the rep to come back to me to tell me how we would get the new refrigerator with an icemaker and it is good that they are following up the day after this happened. Other than that, since I’ve had their service for a very long time, I was impressed that it only took her about an hour to research. I am not upset with the place. I am just upset with the process that they have and that I’m getting a refrigerator with an icemaker built-in, but they sent me one without. The rep said that I should’ve kept the refrigerator and they could’ve sent me the icemaker, but I didn’t like that idea. That was not a choice. I’m hoping that everything is gonna be smooth past this point. If they had it worked out yesterday and had what I ordered, I would’ve been a happy camper.

I moved into the house and the AC was continuously running. I called American Home Shield and they had an AC company out. The tech said that it was some kind of valve up in the attic. He went up in the attic and took the serial number to order the valve. He also said that it looked like the coils had been claimed and somebody didn’t get all the chemical off the coil and it damaged the coil.
So he came back the following couple of days and put the valve in and everything was good. He said to let him know if I had any problems. A few days later I called back in, the AC was doing the same thing and he came over and as soon as he got out of his truck he told me that he was not allowed to touch anything. I asked what he meant and he told me that he talked to his boss and said that because the coils were damaged by others, they were not allowed to do anything. And that he shouldn’t even have done the valve. So with him saying that, I contacted four other AC companies that day that came out and they called BS on what he said. They told me that if somebody cleaned the coils and they didn’t clean them the right way and they supposed to have done this two weeks prior to my moving in, there was no way that the chemical or anything on the AC would’ve damaged the coils that quick. It would’ve taken years to do that.
They said that the reason the first AC company said what they said was because the warranty company doesn't want to replace the AC unit. They wanna do what they can in order to not replace it. So then my area rep called in for a second opinion without me knowing. An AC company came out, went up in the attic, and looked. The tech told me that my AC coils look fine and noted it on the paperwork that he gave me. The only thing that he saw was the AC was a little bit undersized and needed to fix some of the ductwork. I fixed the ductwork and the following week, I ripped out the AC unit and paid for it myself to get it replaced with a new unit because it all started to hassle.
The other claims that I filed with American Home Shield, including the icemaker, the refrigerator, and the plumbing, were fine. Everything with American Home Shield was absolutely perfect. But when it came to the AC unit, it all went downhill from there. It was absolutely horrible. The way that American Home Shield did what they had to do and the parameters they have in dealing with the other AC Companies I dealt with that don’t do warranty with them anymore because of the parameters they have setup through the AC, which they wouldn’t do. The AC companies don’t even do American Home Shield warranties because they got tired of being dishonest to people.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the pool pump to get fixed. I did it online and navigating the website was totally easy. The contractors came out relatively fast this time compared before when it took them about a week because everyone was opening their pools at that time. When contractors come out, I try to make it as easy as possible for them to know what they need and come out with it so that everything could be knocked down in one day. For example, I take photos of the pump model and let them know the trouble that I’m experiencing. If I don't do that, it can add another visit, and if the nanny is not at home or I am unable to check off work, then it really is an inconvenience.
I have never run into any issues with the vendors, but it has been really obnoxious when the process is turned back over to American Home Shield. There is a breakdown in communications on every single claim that I’ve ever made between the vendor and American Home Shield, so they are left in the wings and they don’t have any answers. When I call in, I’m bounced back and forth and it is surprising. I would have to contact the vendor, but they don’t really know where it is in the process. If American Home Shield's service wasn’t so inexpensive, I definitely wouldn’t use it, but I continue to use it because others can’t beat the price and the inconvenience is worth me not having to spend $3,000 on a new AC unit.
The communication between American Home Shield and the vendor would solve the problem. I wish that they would let the customer know exactly where they stand at all points and say, "We need this part. It’s gonna be with Home Shield and someone will reach out to you,” instead of me having to call in and wait on hold and waste more time. It would be a few simple emails or even one simple email between vendor and Home Shield that could keep the customer abreast to what’s going on. Having a warranty is extremely valuable. I wouldn’t have the funds out of pocket every time if something broke, so I’d rather pay overtime and roll the dice knowing that I’m gonna pay this much each month whether I need it or not in case I need it. I always recommend that people get American Home Shield, but I let them know that it comes at a convenience cost. It’s extremely affordable, but where they essentially pay for it is on the customer service inconvenience.
Good morning Joshua,

He had to order the part though, so then we had to wait two more weeks by the time the part got here, but it was pretty fast. He was very professional too. He did his job and then he left. Everything was great and the icemaker is doing really good right now.

I had a plumbing issue where there was a clog. The house was smelly and water was not going where it needed to go. K&S came out. In fact, I have always asked for them if they were available. They're wonderful and I really like them. They're on time when calling and professional. Plus they don't leave a mess. They had to break the repair up into two parts because they had to have different equipment. But they resolved the issue.
On the other hand, I have an issue with my dryer that has never been resolved. The dryer does not cut off. It just runs. So I can't turn it on and walk off. It runs for six hours while I'm at work. It's been like that for a very long time and they never followed up. I tried to call the contractor but he never returned the call. Then when I called American Home Shield about it, they couldn't get in touch with him. So they sent the job to another vendor and I had to pay another fee. When the contractor came out, they had to order the part and it took months. When I said it wouldn't really take that long to get the part, the office manager called and apologized. She said it was her fault. Then when they came out and put the part in, the dryer only worked for a day.
I also wish everything wasn't so online with American Home Shield. I understand it's a convenience thing but some things aren't as straightforward as the format and you do need to speak to a representative to get clarification on things. But when you call, the wait times are unbearable. Once you finally get a person, the claims process over the phone is not difficult. But I've sat on hold for 45 minutes before. As far as that is concerned, it's not good service. I also work the same schedule so it's hard for me to call and sit on hold. For the dryer claim, I got someone who didn't speak English very well. I could understand her but when I explained the situation, unfortunately, there was a language barrier. She didn't understand what I was saying but I didn't want to be rude and tell her she didn't know what she was talking about. That was who Home Shield decided to hire as their customer service rep though, so that was who I had to deal with.
We had a conference call with the vendor and it turned into a slight argument with the office manager. I said that I was not saying I didn't want them to come out and fix the dryer. I was asking what I was going to be charged for if the dryer would not be repaired. But she was so busy trying to defend her company and everything they do that she was missing the point. She wasn't listening. She was a little unprofessional and a little bit rude. She was defending her company and I give her credit for that. But I wasn't saying anything negative about them. I just said that what they did was not repairing the dryer.
The owner ended up getting on the phone and I explained to him what was going on. With Home Shield on the phone, the lady asked if they could send the technicians back out. But I had told her that several times. It was a recorded call and they could have listened to it. I was told that Home Shield would follow up but I have yet to hear from them. At this point, it's been two months. When I tried to call, I left the phone on speaker and after an hour, I hung up. I've also been told that I had waited too long to get this resolved. But I didn't. The company that initiated the repair took too long. They said it was because I didn't call but I had.
The warranty is good but customers should be prepared for a few hurdles in dealing with a few things. They should also ask a lot of questions and get clarification on what's covered and what's not because there are little loopholes. Everything else has been decent and overall, I'm 80% satisfied with everything Home Shield has to offer.

When my AC didn’t work, it was easy to submit an online claim with American Home Shield. They then sent Modern Mechanical who did an excellent job. They’re well-known here in this area and they’re the company I use for my yearly HVAC maintenance. Everyone that I had ever dealt with from that company was very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. Since their repair, there has been no issue with the AC whatsoever. I’ve been with American Home Shield for at least 8 years and my claims have all been worked expediently. They're dependable, and you can always count on them to be on time. And, my next home will have American Home Shield as well.

I had cold water coming out of my shower so I called American Home Shield to file a claim for it. They answered my questions, were professional and were able to send a contractor the same day which was quick. However, there are some assumptions consumers make that aren't fair to the vendor like when I thought that all was going to be covered by my policy but it cost me $750 to have my water heater replaced with my insurance policy, which was distinctly shocking.
The fee included the first visit, a permit, $100 for a permit and some amount for the visit, several $100 for the plumbing that connects the hot water heater to the water source both in and out and the cost of the pan. Then, there were some additional plumbing that was required to reinstall the new heater. There was also cost because my water softener had to be detached and reattached. I have an insurance policy that I pay every month. If I didn’t have one, I could’ve gotten the water heater replaced and installed for less than $750. Nevertheless, the contractors were very good and since the repair, the operation of the shower has been perfect.

The AC motor froze up and it wasn’t producing any air. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and their rep was great. I called on a Wednesday but the tech from Johnson’s Heating and Cooling didn’t get out until that Monday. So I was stuck in the midst of a heat wave with no air and I wasn’t happy with that. The problem was that once AHS assign somebody, then that is it for them. Johnson’s did very well but they had to make a couple of trips because they couldn’t do anything when the motor was frozen. So that gave me another two days without any air.
Johnson’s told me that if a part was needed, AHS would order the part. Then the part would go to AHS who would then ship it to the contractor then the contractor would come out and replace the part. I thought that was a whole of lot middleman which wasn't needed. The tech also told me that American Home Shield never ordered the part but he had the part on-hand. So, he took a motor that he had in his shop, brought it out to me, and put it on. Then he took the blade off of the motor that he had and put my blade on his motor. He just came out yesterday to finally fix it and finish it up. So American Home Shield never did anything about it because all they did was send the guy out. And AHS never ordered the part because that it would take two to three weeks to get.
It was quite a process and I was not a very happy camper. I'm even thinking if I could charge American Home Shield for a fan that I had to go out and buy because I had to, so I could have some coolness in my house over those weeks. I've never had this much of a problem with American Home Shield before at what they do. I like their services, but they call the next available tech and that tech may get to me in three to four days. It is a good thing that I'm in good health because if I was in poor health with a breathing problem, I would have been stuck.

Our AC unit was really old and it was just blowing hot air. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and they sent Lee’s Cooling and Heating within a couple of days to check it. However, they couldn’t replace the parts. AHS got a second opinion and it was the same opinion. So they went back to Lee’s to get a whole new unit. They said we had to pay $647 for some extra sheet metal work and duct work but they used the old sheet metal and duct work. But after they got the job done, I was pleased with it and I just went ahead and paid the $647.
It took 18 to 20 days to put the new unit in from the time that I submitted the claim which was not that bad because it's in the middle of a hot season and they're busy. Lee’s was great and the other one out of Cherryvale, Kansas was good too. The guy that put the unit in did a really good job. The brand new unit has been perfect and our utility bill went $300 down a month which has been really good. I tell people all the time that AHS is a really good deal. The cost is $51 a month for me, but it's well worth it.

American Home Shield has different call centers where they have a lot of folks that don't speak clear English and they don't know how to handle stuff. I had an issue with a plumbing company that came out, and I didn't want them to come to the house. I called Home Shield and told the rep that I don't want that plumbing company to come to my house and I wanted somebody else. The rep told me that I have to put in a new claim for that. But they haven't even came to the house. The rep was rude and he also said the if they put in for another one, then I have to pay another $75. Why do I have to pay another $75 when they haven't even set foot here yet? But I ended up having these people come in my house.
I didn't like the way the guy came in. He just said that they didn't do this and Home Shield was not gonna pay for it. Then he gave me his card if I wanted to do something on the side. When I called back Home Shield later and talked to another lady, she said it was not true. They could have assigned us to another person because the contractor haven't been to our house yet. I ended up having to hire another person to come and do my air condition, and go on with another plumber, still through American Home Shield. But I ended up paying another $75 because I just didn't want those people back in my house.
As long as I've been with American Home Shield, this is the first time that I had a really bad experience. I highly recommended Home Shield to everyone, but after this experience, I'm telling people to try other places and not Home Shield. I've had good experiences with Home Shield, and the people in the Tennessee and Georgia offices were wonderful. But based on the last experience, I'm not happy with it.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you to make sure your issue is resolved. I look forward to assisting you.

I’ve been using the app to file claims online with American Home Shield since that's the easiest way for me. I submitted a claim for my garage door opener recently. The contractor was fantastic. The repair went well and they got the problem fixed. I also filed a claim for my stove and that went well too. All of the contractors sent out by AHS were good, except for the refrigerator company which was awful.
My claim for the refrigerator was a nightmare and it was a bit drawn out. I have a waterline to my ice maker that was still connected to my old fridge. The refrigerator company dropped off the new fridge, but they wouldn't touch the waterline and left. We were without a refrigerator for nearly four months and that was a bit rough. We couldn't get a different refrigerator company and I installed the new fridge myself. I was gonna put a consumer complaint in for the way those refrigerator people treated my wife, but they said they didn’t have a website. Afterwards, when I looked at the reviews on them online, I saw that they had a website. Nevertheless, I would still recommend AHS as it's not their fault that the refrigerator company was bad.

We had a stoppage in our plumbing system that we needed taken care of. I submitted a claim with AHS online and had a pretty good experience, considering it was 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. Before, we had an issue where we filed a claim and American Home Shield hired somebody to do it. But when I spoke to the company that they hired, that company told me that they weren’t able to take care of our issue. And for some reason, every time that issue comes up, they were the ones that get hired. So we called American Home Shield back and they hired somebody new for the account. Then that person came out and they were here within a day or two to fix the problem.
But at the time, we were charged a $75 fee for both companies. I spoke to American Home Shield and they told us that they would take care of the issue. But there were no active warranties in our system, however, it is still showing that we have a $75 fee past due. When I spoke to the gentleman about the issue, he said that sometimes, it does take some time. We’ve had a few other issues in the home that we’ve dealt with them and everything has been really good. The contractors that AHS sent out were really knowledgeable, got the job done, and weren’t here very long. Things have been working really good since the repair, too. I’d tell others to go for AHS.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a Samsung dryer. They're coming for their third visit today for the same exact problem. The first time, they replaced the sensor but that did not solve the problem. The second time, they couldn't get the dryer to run when we set it on the setting that I normally use which is normal dry. It would start, but it wouldn't stay running for more than 10 minutes. The technician tried setting a time for 40 minutes and it worked for three weeks to a month. It started doing the same thing on the set time where it runs for 10 minutes and stops. So, 3 Boys Appliance Repair is scheduled to come back out today to try and fix it.
I usually submit claims online because it's a quick process to get to request a service. You hear back from them immediately what contractor will be coming out and contacting me for an appointment. And their contractors have been quick in responding. They usually come out within three days. Hopefully, 3 Boys Appliance Repair can resolve my dryer issue today or replace it. Overall, American Home Shield has been great and I've had very good experience with them. I've already recommended them to my sister and they now are with them.

I call in to file claims with American Home Shield and the people are very friendly. However, sometimes, I get to do one of those callback things, but when they call back, we get disconnected, so it doesn't work really well. However, when I submitted the claims, the appliance guys came out right away and the techs were all very professional and very nice.
The ice maker of our Samsung refrigerator freezes up and the water drips from the bottom of it. At first, the bottom was clipped in there the way it was manufactured, so the techs came in and replaced the whole bottom of the ice thing. Then, they came in and replaced the clip with a screw and did what they said Samsung told them to do which was to glue stuff in place. But nothing has changed and it’s still not working that’s why they’ve got to call in. I got an email that Economy Appliance, Heat and Air was picked to do the job, but they still haven’t shown up yet, although they have been here three times before.
They’ve also been out for my air conditioning ducts which were leaking water out of them. The tech was here and he turned on some vents that lose air from one room to another and he said that was the problem. Everything was sealed correctly and three hours later, everything worked. They had a guy call me from their company and tried to sell me more insulation, but I don’t really think I needed it.
American Home Shield is doing the best they can. The guys on the refrigerator explained that Samsung has this problem with the refrigerator, but they won’t admit the particular one I’ve got. This is an expensive refrigerator. It’s almost $3,000 for a refrigerator so somebody ought to fix it. Nonetheless, I recommend American Home Shield. As a matter fact, we’re thinking about putting our house on the market and the realtors have asked me what we wanted to do. I said, “We want to put a house in America and we would use American Home Shield for a piece of the warranty for the next.”

The customer service call center with American Home Shield is one of the worst I have ever dealt with. No one ever answers the phone and you on hold for 30 mins each time you call them and then you are disconnected and have to start the process all over again. If you read the reviews, I am sure we are not the only customer stating these facts. I was even on hold for 30 mins to cancel our warranty and still have not received email confirmation that this has taken place. We all know, that you buy a Home Warranty because we need them to be there when you need them... Finally after 6 yrs we got smarter and we have now moved on to one that is.

At the end of July the dishwasher was not properly cleaning the dishes and had a bad odor. We called and had someone out here a few days later. The repairman said our dishwasher was not worth the cost to fix and the fridge needed new parts. After a week I called A.H.S for a status. After hours in the phone they told me the tech didn’t send in his report. They would call on it and call me back.
After 2 days no phone call so I called back and got the runaround. It took until August 14 when they said they had the report and that they ordered the fridge parts and sent the dishwasher to authorization department. They would call me within 24 hours. Today is September 1 and no one has called us. So I call today and after the runaround and over an hour in the phone they said our dishwasher was denied because it was a pre existing condition. I explained that it worked when we moved in and I had the inspection report stating it was in working condition. The authorization department said they’d look into it and call the contractor and call me back... so the waiting game again while I have a smelly, inoperable dishwasher. To be continued...

I have an upstairs and a downstairs AC units. We turned them on this summer and both of them turned on but they were blowing hot air so I called American Home Shield. They sent Temple out and the guy turned on one unit. The upstairs one was not working but the downstairs one was blowing cold air. I asked how does it blow cold air sometimes and not the other and the guy wasn’t quite sure. He was maybe doubting the fact that it ever stopped blowing cold air because it seemed to be an odd issue. He said that they usually work or they don’t work. He was very nice about it and I asked for his card. He fixed the unit upstairs and it has worked ever since.
The downstairs unit didn’t work again. I called him and he said that it was weird. He told me I had to go through American Home Shield and they will send me a thing and take care of me because it was within a certain amount of days. It was a recall and once I put it in the system, he will be able to come out. So, I went through American Home Shield and I talked to a gal. Then, the guy called and told me he got the paperwork and he will come out on Monday. He has been fantastic and I couldn’t be more pleased with Temple.
On the other hand, my mom also has American Home Shield on her house. I help her out with her place and I also put an AC claim. The guy just wanted to get in and get out as quick as possible and told us that American Home Shield will call us and he said bye.
AHS called me to tell me that they denied the claim because there was water damage with the AC unit. I told them that I forced the guy who came here to tell me what was wrong and he said that the condenser was leaking and it was low on refrigerant. I told them that if the unit is 15 years old, I can count on one hand how many inches of rain it has seen in Southern California. Plus, AC units are built to withstand rain because people all over the country who have them get a lot more rain than I do. But American Home Shield’s rep wouldn’t explain to me anything else other than saying there was water damage and he wanted to get off the phone with me.

Water was leaking from my faucet in the kitchen and something had fallen from underneath the sink. When I would turn the faucet on, the water would just gather around. I called in to submit a claim to AHS and the rep was good. I did everything when I was waiting for Sam’s Club to open on a Sunday morning, and I was sitting in my car parked and had a conversation with her. She was thorough. The contractors called me Tuesday and the tech that came was a very polite young man. He told me exactly what he needed to do and he said it was simple. He switched out my faucet set to a commercial faucet set that he had that they use so he wasn’t here very long.
However, I gave him a call back and told him that once I turned my faucet on and then turned it off, there was a drip. He explained that it's just like when you take a shower. Sometimes when you turn your shower off, you may have a drip after. He was trying to understand what kind of drip I had. My thing was that there was no drip with the last faucet I had. He told me this faucet was a different kind because this one sprays out. He explained it to me, so I was satisfied.
AHS is a good company. I've been with them for a long time and I had an issue with my payments so I went with another company. I had paid them for almost a year but this company cannot touch the kinds of service that AHS does. They may tout that they do this, and they will repair this, but they do not so I immediately went back to AHS. I'm so glad that I did.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Arlease. You have been a long time customer and we appreciate you being apart of the AHS family. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

There was a request for repair of some issues from the inspection in the sale of the home. The realtors handled the claim submission with American Home Shield and the contractors came out and did the repair. The plumber was nice and did a good job. The plumbing service was great and the plumbing issue was taken care of, but the AC repair wasn't as pleasant. The contractor that came out to work on the AC didn't do a thorough job. I explained to AHS that when they send a contractor out to do a job, I would think that they would totally inspect their work afterwards, but the AC company didn't do that. They just came in, put in a capacitor, and left. They didn't go up into the attic, run the AC and turn it off, and inspect to make sure that everything was fine. I turned the AC off that night at 7:30 and by 9:00 ice had built up. This caused a leak in the ceiling that required some work and it was a mess, but the AC didn't end up getting fully repaired.
There were some negotiations done in escrow and the house sale has been done and closed. I'm not the owner of that house anymore and I don't have any more ties to it, but I wasn't happy with the way the AC repair went. Nevertheless, I like AHS and I would recommend them. I've been happy with them in the year that I've had them. In fact, the tech that came to work on the dishwasher was fine. I just moved to a new home and I need to get a home warranty here quickly, so it's likely that I'll end up going with AHS again.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield when I had a septic tank failure. However, I wasn’t happy that the contractor just gave an analysis and didn’t do a repair. Two of the requests I made with them all throughout my experience were not satisfactory to being repaired. Other than that, I feel good about the amount of time it took AHS to send a contractor out and I had a satisfactory interaction with their contractor.

American Home Shield has been really good. The times we’ve had to call in have been very easy and they responded really quickly. The person that came out for the garage door was good, but my interactions with the rest of the company was not good. They quoted us the price for the package, and we did the upgrade with the systems, and we paid the difference. They said it came with two clickers, the keypad, the keyless entry and then they took it all back. The guy said that we only get one clicker. Also, they shouldn’t have even installed the keyless entry but they did. It was a mess. They also told me that I was liar and had to look up our phone records. So I didn’t appreciate that.

I’ve had several claims with American Home Shield. I bought this place in March and back then I had an A/C problem and a plumbing problem. While I’ve been really happy with American Home Shield, they keep sending me something on my email saying I’m delinquent on a $75 co-pay which is not true. They have talked to me about five times and it should have been taken off. It was an electrical problem, but in actuality, when the tech got there, he said that it was a plumbing problem and that it wasn’t his problem at all. I called AHS and they said that they were gonna waive the $75 and get a plumber out. The plumber came and fixed it.
I submit the claims over the phone and the interactions I have had with the reps have been good, although they need to follow through to every department so I don’t keep getting this delinquent email. The contractors have been fine. Before, they seemed a little seedy, but lately, the guys that have been coming have been great. AHS has been great and it has saved me money even though I’m paying $75 every month. When there’s a problem, I call them. I also had an air conditioner problem and they said they would get back with me within four hours, but they did not. When I called them the next day, they told me to get my person out. They were really accommodating. I asked if I had to pay out of network and they said yes, but they will reimburse me, and they did. They are a little better than they used to be and they are really trying. I tell people all the time to get them.

We moved into a new house and the pot filler that was over the stove had a bunch of corrosion on it. The home inspector never told us about that and we never noticed it until we tried to use our pot filler and it leaked all over the place. So we called American Home Shield and asked them if they could fix it because we didn’t wanna have a leak every time we tried to use our pot filler. The guy I spoke with said that it was a preexisting condition, so they didn’t cover it. But everything that we bought our Home Shield policy to fix was preexisting. If we didn’t see it, we wouldn’t have thought it was broken, so it was pre-existing. In the end, we were disappointed that our pot filler wouldn’t get repaired.
Other than that, the locksmith that AHS sent out for our other claim was a good guy. I liked him because he was a copay and it seemed like it was a better deal. AHS also had a refrigerator guy out and he gave us a good assessment, though it was for an old refrigerator, so we didn't have it fixed. Generally speaking, I’m a bit on the fence if AHS is worth the money because some of the stuff we hoped to get fixed didn't get fixed. While we had good experiences with some other stuff, we also paid $800 for other ones. All in all, we got AHS because we’re protecting ourselves from something catastrophic like a huge dishwasher failure, but we’re also trying to protect ourselves from catastrophic costs and the little nickel-and-dime thing with them didn’t seem like it was that great of a deal.

I had some AC issues in my home and we had to go to another vendor because the vendor that American Home Shield originally recommended said they had corrected the issue but we had the same issue again. When the first vendor came out on a Friday, they took the information to order a part. But they failed to put in the order immediately, so we were without AC the whole weekend. When we followed up on the following Tuesday, we found out that the paperwork hadn’t been put in. It was unfair to us because we were thinking that the part was ordered and that we were gonna have the part and it would be ready for install by that Monday as they stated. It was a horrible experience, and AHS recommended another vendor at some point.
We didn’t get any kind of call back to tell us anything differently. Then we had to research on our own, called AHS and come to find out that the order was not put in. We went back and forth, and the vendor finally realized that they did not order the part. It fell through the crack, and had we not called, we would have still been waiting on it.
We've had AHS for about four years now and out of all the time that we have utilized their services, it went pretty good. Their reps over the phone were pretty polite and patient, and our experience with the vendors that they sent out has been very efficient. But they didn’t service us very well on this particular AC thing that we had.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim when we had a problem with our AC and the reps did well. The contractor, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas, which has done repairs on our AC before came out and I paid the deductible. The response of AHS to our claim submissions has been fine so far, but if we file a claim during a busy time, it's gonna take a while for a technician to come out.
With air conditioning, it's the same thing as with a car where you gotta keep your oil changed and the services done. I get a tune-up for my AC on my own and I contact and use A-US Air for that. If something goes out with our AC, A-US Air calls AHS and sees if the repair is covered, then they go from there. AHS's monthly payments and the deductible go up every year, though, and they could cover some more items with their warranty. But generally, I'm good with the contractors sent by AHS.

It was BJ Home Appliance Repair who came out and they fixed the ice maker that stopped working. I filed a claim again in July then they came the second time around and fixed it again, and it’s been working okay since then. I also filed a claim for the washer and AHS had Sears come out for it. They identified that the issue was a significant one and they had to order some parts. It took a week for the parts to come in and then, Sears came back and fixed it which took them about two and a half hours to do it. I made a service request the beginning of July and AHS has given us the runaround on it. Had the original company come out and they stated there was no problem with it! The other company came out and found the problem and AHS would not approve the company to fix it, then the company that installed it was not going to come back out till September... (Well summer here in Oregon is over)!!! So, I got tired of the runaround and hours of calls being on hold and call dropped from their company that I paid the company that found the problem out of pocket a lot of money!!! But now my AC works perfect!!! I will be filing against this company... You can't ever get in contact with anyone at the corporate office, and all their customer service reps are from overseas!!!
Updated on 09/26/2018: I had contact with the company and Consumer Affairs and my previous review states that it was resolved, and has not been resolved!!! I asked why it says resolved and Consumer Affairs stated that the company themselves stated it has been resolved when actually it has not been. It was stated that the would refund only $400.00 and to this day I have not rec'd a check. This company never follows through and they state that I still owe them for a service call of $100.00 and this service call billed is for them coming out and having the improperly air conditioning unit install checked out. I paid another company to come out and fix the improper install of the a/c and it is working perfectly now!!!

We had a dishwasher thing going on and they responded within a good time after we submitted the claim. They had to order parts. It took a little while but they delivered it in the time they specified. Then they came and put it in. Overall, it's fine. It's an older appliance, so they'll keep replacing parts until such time that there's no more point in replacing them. In which case, we have to get a new one. Nevertheless, they have professional service. We've also had other things that they've come to do consultations on and they've always been very helpful. American Home Shield is a good product.

I accepted the buy program, and it has been 3 weeks and I haven't heard from this company. I have called 4 times (waiting time is 40 60 minutes every time I call)... They keep telling that the buy out Department will call me within 24 hours. Nothing has happened!!! I have heard the same apology and the same promise and to this day no one has contacted me. There was an issue with my stove-top and microwave and I filed one claim for those two different items with American Home Shield. I filed the claim over the phone as I prefer to talk to a person so if there were any additional information needed, I could get it. The wait time to talk to a person is a bit much though but that’s understandable. The contractor that they sent was excellent and this experience was a good one. The previous experience though was the worst ever.
I called in reference to my HVAC system and I was told by American Home Shield that they would pay $10 for each pound of refrigerant needed. The person that came out to my home didn’t do anything. All he did was tell me that I needed 6 pounds of refrigerant and that the cost of the refrigerant was $150 per pound. I understand that refrigerant is expensive but the main thing that he tried to do was to upsell me to get a Trane HVAC system. When I explained to him that I didn’t have 150 times six today, he didn’t do anything. It was extremely hot that day and I had to go without my AC until I got a second opinion.
I called someone else to check my system and he said that there’s no way a closed system would need 6 pounds of refrigerant and if there was a leak, it should have been fixed. I only needed 3 pounds which I could afford, so I got someone else to do the job. American Home Shield attempted to recover their $100 deductible, which I didn’t owe because the guy didn’t do anything and he didn’t tell me the truth. AHS has been great though. To think that a person will come to your home and fix something on that day is not the way it works. They are an insurance company. They’re gonna come, just like sending in an adjuster out to your home, to observe the situation. Once they observed it, they get back with American Home Shield and then they come to do the repair, so it’s gonna cost at least two half days of work to get one repair done. But with any insurance company, once you understand that concept, you’re fine.

There was a leakage through the ceiling and the AC didn’t seem to be cooling. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The techs came back so many times because they didn’t do their job right. They didn’t fix all the leakage. They left the pipe hanging up there. It wasn’t just leaking through one pipe. It was also leaking through another pipe. The first guy was great. He was really helpful but he missed a lot of things. When they came out the third time, they said it was a plumber issue. So the plumber came out, but he said the issue was part of the air conditioning system. They were kind of ticked off so I ended paying an extra service charge.
I also keep getting emails from AHS saying I owe yet another service charge when I shouldn’t have to pay that second one in the first place. I called three times and they said they have corrected it but I still get the emails. Even so, the AC is working now. AHS signed another person, and a lady came out. She was the owner of the company and she came just to see what happened. And then, the techs fixed it but they almost made it sound like it was a new thing. They tried to get another service fee out of it. But it was their screw-up.
They also left all their garbage up there. The ductwork was hanging off. I didn’t call about that because I didn’t know what was happening but that was part of it when they came back up. They noticed the ductwork from the air conditioning was hanging right off. So the attic was getting air conditioning but not the lower part of the house. That was part of the problem. They didn’t even notice that until the last time they came. And then, they kind of haphazardly taped it up, and then it fell off again. So I had to go fix it myself.
Good morning Bruce,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience and the air conditioner repairs were completed. Per the review, I understand that there was a leak causing secondary damage as well as duct work modifications. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve any issues that have occurred.

This summer is a little hotter and the master bedroom window faces the east. The guy sent by American Home Shield went up in the attic and checked it. He did his test on the temperature on each one of the vents and said that they came out good but it was not going from room to room. I didn’t get what he did and the problem was not fixed.
The guy was very pleasant and professional. He said that the filters needed to be changed and I told him that they were changed four days prior to the day he changed them. Water was leaking out from the fridge. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield then someone came by and took care of it. Their online process was easy for this particular claim, but for the other ones I submitted, it was a little vague. For another claim I had, I called the folks who were gonna come in to fix the issue but they said it did not come through properly for them. It was because when I submitted the claim online, I didn’t have any way to add a description, although there was a set of checkboxes I needed to check that closely matched the problem.
One time, I talked to someone and it was a very good call because they were able to ask the right questions, add comments to my claim, and schedule the service call properly. Then, I had a plumbing issue and the contractors who came out did a good job. The issue was addressed, but professionally speaking, it was a little odd from not knocking on the door before coming in to the way they responded to questions. Other than that, I experienced same day repair for the claims I filed and I didn’t have to follow up because the issue was fixed during the service call itself. The coverage is great with American Home Shield and they are the only company that has a comprehensive coverage. Their warranty is also cost-effective. We have a two-storey house and our air conditioner didn’t seem to be cooling as it had been in the past. The heat rises in the summer and I wanted to have someone to look at it to make sure that there wasn’t some issue. My wife submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and a technician from a company that they contract with called after. He set up a window of time to come, but we never heard from him and he did not show up or call. We were about to leave the house at around 6:00 when he finally called and said that he could not find our house. We wanted to get it done so we gave him directions then waited and he showed up.
The guy was nice. He explained how busy he was and that he would be working past midnight that evening. He took care of the issue and found the filter that we didn’t know the location in the house. He got it cleaned out. He also cleaned the outside portion of the AC unit with some deoxidizers then checked everything. It was a quick call for him. The cooling on the second floor improved and the air conditioner seems to be working fine now. The filter was just dirty and it wasn’t able to cool the whole house the way that the unit that was installed was designed to. I was very happy with it.
We had to pay AHS 80 bucks per call. The way I look at it is that we could have called the technician and paid about that or more directly. But since we had this, we decided to go on that route. They have a log of the things they come out for so if the air conditioner continued to have issues for the next 30 days, they will come out free of charge and handle it. We made a couple of claims that made it worthwhile for us to renew for another year -- we are on our second year with them.
At one point, it was disappointing, however, that the major repairs the gas fireplace needed were not covered when it completely stopped working because it was clearly something that came with the house. But we have gotten our value out of the insurance policy for what it covers, and the amount we could potentially be out of pocket. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to cover a house yu are not familiar with.

The coils of our AC were dirty and the AC needed a little Freon. I called American Home Shield, but they were backed up and I couldn't get service. Luckily, when I submitted a different claim with them, I didn't have anyone living in the carriage house so the air conditioner being out there didn't make much of a difference at that time. But if it was my air conditioner in my house, I would be very concerned. The technicians that they sent cleaned the coils and gave it Freon. AHS has been really good. When we had a water heater that was leaking, they sent someone out that came the same day.
However, the water heater kept leaking and the contractor couldn't give us a way to stop the leak because we didn't know where the spout was for that particular water heater to turn off the water. It was very difficult. We were bailing water for about five hours before the guys came so that was inconvenient, but it was our fault for not knowing where to turn it off. However, the guys that they sent out for the water heaters upcharged everything and gave us an estimate that we would've had to pay so much out of pocket for which was a bit ridiculous. We told AHS to send us the money and we'd get our own contractors. We got our own contractors and it was within the cost that they gave us.
American Home Shield is professional and they do what they say. But I have an issue with them raising my fees when the renewal came on one of my accounts. The fee went from $47 to almost $61. Otherwise, AHS won't leave me hanging when some expectations are required and they also don't try to sell things that are not needed. They have someone come out usually the same day, within hours, and they take care of my problem.

They were supposed to contact me again to schedule how to clean it but they never got back to me, and I couldn’t get in touch with them. I would never recommend using them at all. I finally talked to American Home Shield and they were able to get another company but they said that they don’t clean ducts. So, I went outside American Home Shield and I contacted a different rep, and they took care of it.
Now, the AC is fine but I was debating whether or not to cancel all three American Home Shield policies that I currently have on my three homes. The customer reps I spoke to at American Home Shield were very responsive and they worked very hard to get a resolution. They really were sympathetic to my situation. So, it's two-fold. American Home Shield is no better nor worse than any other warranty program. They try to fix stuff with duct tape until it blows up and they have to replace it, but they are competitive when it comes to the other ones. They just need to do a better job at their vendor selection.

A friend of mine was asking why they had to move my water tank to fix what they needed to fix. But I didn't follow up with it because that wasn't even the issue at hand. The Freon was just out. We had a refrigerator and dryer problem so we filed a claim with American Home Shield. We did it online and it was very easy. Their reps have been really good so far. Most of the time, the work gets done, but many of their contractors have not been very friendly. There had been a language issue in many cases but at the end of the day the appliances were fixed, which was the most important part. The appliances are old and I don't know how much longer they have left but American Home Shield seems intent on fixing something instead of replacing it.

I have been a customer of AHS for over ten years, and my past experience has been largely satisfactory. My 25 year-old AC unit has not been cooling in a satisfactory manner for the last 45 days, and AHS has sent the same air conditioning company out four times. At the latest visit yesterday (Aug. 29th), the serviceman stated that the compressor needed to be replaced, and also indicated this in his report. I called AHS today to find out the status, and was told they had not received the report from the AC company. Keep in mind that this has been going on since I first reported the problem on July 19, or over 45 days ago, and the fact that we are dealing with a 25 year-old unit. Also, the temperatures in this area have been close to 100 degrees while this problem has been going on.
Updated on 09/07/2018: I rejected American Home Shield's (AHS) offer to replace the compressor (the main part of the outside unit) on my 25 year-old unit. The original $1,000 charge to me for refrigerant has been eliminated when I informed them there was a leak in the system. While my cost has been reduced to $200, this does very little to resolve the problem. While AHS would be out something like $2,000, we would still be dealing with a 25 year-old air conditioning system. The A/C company, that has been out FOUR times since the middle of July says they will replace the unit for $3,891, (an earlier quote was $2,650) with me paying $1,970 of the cost. I have not heard why the large increase, but it looks like my portion of the cost has been increased to reduce AHS's expense. Still no cool air.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

2 weeks ago, our Geothermal unit had a leaky pipe. This has shut down our whole AC system as the geothermal uses water underground to cool/heat. We were told to wait 24-48 hrs for someone to contact us. We waited, they did, but they didn't work on geo-thermal units. Called AHS again, same answer 24-48, same response when we were contacted, they don't work on geothermals. Called AHS again and stressed that they contact someone who works on a geothermal system to call us. Again 24-48 hrs again, same response. I was told they put it in as an emergency service as it's been over a week with no air and it's 100 degrees here. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor as the guy on the line didn't understand English so I couldn't get through to him what the problem was. He hung up on me. Called SEVERAL times and was disconnected.
After waiting on the line for 45 min again, I call and they gave us authorization to find someone ourselves. We can't find a single person who is willing to work with AHS. Not one... So I call back again and she says they will try again to give them 24-48 hrs. It was considered an emergency over a week ago and now it's ok to wait even longer? It is not our fault that no one is willing to work with AHS anymore. We paid our premium and are getting the raw end of the deal. I contacted Rebecca ** via email so we will see what she can do. Might I add, this is NOT the first time we ran into this with them. We had an issue with a washing machine drain.
After several attempts to get someone to come out, they had us do an outside authorization. We did, but because the company refused to speak to AHS on the phone with the diagnoses, we had to pay the $75 plus we had to pay the company and never got reimbursed. I understand protocol fully, but what about when no one will work with your company and now your customers get no help. We pay a premium for services, yet you don't provide those services. I would advise ANYONE who will listen to seek help elsewhere and to not waste your money and time with American Home Shield as they do NOT provide the services they say and they do not work with you when the people they send won't work with them.
And here it is 2 weeks later, with ANOTHER 90+ degree week and we have no air. We have had to move into friends houses to live. Very VERY expensive for us. And if by chance this isn't fixed by winter... We won't have heat as it runs both. And as a word of advice... If the people working for you don't speak or understand English, how are we supposed to convey our issues or know what to do when they have no idea? This is poor business.

I had to wait over 3 weeks for my refrigerator to be repaired. Within the three weeks, I lost food and it is very expensive to keep eating out. I lost insulin since it had to stay refrigerated. After the first week, I decided I had to go out and buy at least a small fridge so I can keep some cold stuff for the kids and keep my insulin cold. I was told the part would be in, in five days. Did not hear back from the contractor, so I called him after the weekend. He told me the part was still not in. Finally came in after waiting two weeks. He told me he would be out on Friday. Friday came and got a call at 5pm saying he won't be out. Told me it would have to wait till Sunday.
Sunday came and he was a no call no show. I called AHS on Monday. After waiting for 45 minutes on hold waiting for a rep, They informed me that they tried calling and emailing him. I get a text from the contractor saying he will be out Tuesday. He did show up and tried to fix it. After he left, it was still not working. I messaged him in the AM and he actually came back out later that day. After 3 weeks it is now finally working. I did call back AHS right now asking if there is any reimbursement for all the money I am out. Their answer, No. Needless to say, I hope nothing else breaks down in my house under this warranty. I have to wait until next year for this contract to be up. Does anyone have any other recommendations for a good warranty company with better customer service? Thanks.

HSA home warranty program has not been able to help me on three separate occasions now to reach an outcome I was pleased with. Don't waste your time or money purchasing this insurance! They don't properly vet the contractors they hire. The contractors have to be hounded to return calls to set up appointments, or there is nobody available to service our area; so we have to find our own and pay out of pocket, then try to get reimbursement from American Home Shield, which I am not too optimistic about!
Our A/C went out on 8/26/18. We reported it to HSA on 8/27. We finally got a scheduled appointment after several calls and an email to the recommended contractor and the earliest they could come out was 9/4/18! When I called to ask to use another HVAC contractor because the reviews were horrible on the one they scheduled us with, they said the best they could do was try to get their contractor to move up their appointment. We have local 5-star HVAC contractor who can come by tomorrow!!! He is licensed and highly recommended. I should be able to use him.
They encourage their Re-Key program when you move into a new home; but then they couldn't find a local contractor available to re-key our home when I put in the service request! We had a cracked window when we moved in, and policy won't cover windows. Huge waste of time. Feel bad for my realtor who paid for this policy.

Their customer service is absent. Their contractors undependable. Total waste of money. A/C went out in August. Submitted service request online. Credit card immediately charged (only thing they do quickly) and was notified of a contractor to contact to make the repair. Got an appointment for 3 days later. They came out, identified a short in a wire, jiggled it to get the A/C working and called it a day. Later that day, A/C is out again and AHS contracts the same company to come back out. Who then states that there is a wiring problem and would have to submit auth. for work which they did, called contractor then which stated that AHS will not cover so I have to come out of pocket $1800, however no one has contacted me from AHS to relate this information. After numerous calls I finally got an appt. schedule for an electrician but now the HVAC company is refusing to come back out unless I have $1800.
I have very low expectations at this point. And the most frustrating thing is it’s impossible to communicate with them. No email, insanely long hold times. They do one thing well, charge your credit card. Sure they refunded me my service fee and did not charge for electrician which to me makes sense since I have been without AC since 8/3/18. In NC Heat. Stay away from this company. Will be contacting BBB.

Our AC unit's thermostat decided to just randomly shut off on us once in a while and we didn’t know what was up with that. AHS sent a contractor out and they showed us what caused the problem, so in the future we would know how to avoid it. They were really great. But when our water heater broke and stopped working completely, the guy that originally came out didn't seem very knowledgeable. He came out and didn’t really look at anything. He just said that it was not working and needed to be replaced. We also had to make numerous calls to the plumbing company because there were parts within AHS that were not covered like re-piping. But we also knew that the piping that up there was fairly new and didn’t need to be replaced.
The plumbing company said that they would only order the parts if we paid the $300 for them to put in new hoses to the hot water heater, and they charged us for it. Thankfully, my husband was very knowledgeable and supervised the guy when he came and replaced the unit. It's a tankless water heater, so it's just a little unit and the technician never replaced the thing. But we had to call AHS to make sure that we understood what wasn’t covered and also called them back because the plumbing company never called us to give our $300 back. So, I'm not thrilled with the plumbing company. It almost seemed like they were trying to double dip.
Overall, I've been very pleased with American Home Shield. We've had some minor mishaps since we've been in the house. It's been almost a year and the service that AHS provided has been fantastic. I have a few family and friends that are in the midst of buying a home and I have recommended the American Home Shield.

My first claim submitted to claim to American Home Shield was for my leaking kitchen sink. I went online and they have specific categories for each thing and there was a dropdown for the categories to choose through. I picked the one that I thought was best and when the company called me, I confirmed that was what it was. They didn’t say that it was the wrong category so I thought it was fine. They were sending out K & K Heating and Plumbing out and they notified me that someone’s gonna reach out. I reached out to the contractor ‘cause I didn’t hear from them and there were some scheduling issues. But other than that, they came out and did the work.
They had to replace the sink and there was a little miscommunication. I told them American Home Shield was gonna handle it and I told them that this is the main sink in my house. When we scheduled it, AHS made it seem like they'd be able to get it fixed the same day. The contractor said that they would normally do that, but they need to make sure American Home Shield was gonna cover it. We went a little back and forth on it and I told them that if AHS doesn’t cover it then I’m stuck with them anyway. But if it wasn't covered, I’m not gonna pay whatever they would just come up on the work done on the sink so it just needs to get fixed. We went on to talk, but they wouldn’t assist. I spoke to American Home Shield and they approved it right away.
The experience was good for the most part. But as far as the processes go, I was a little annoyed with the scheduling aspect of it. When they observed I was annoyed, they acknowledged that they understood my sentiments. ButI was happy with the whole experience. I've been with them for less than a year and I’m glad that I signed up. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

I usually go online and fill out a claim and/or call American Home Shield directly and tell them. My most recent claim was for a sump pump that needed to be replaced and TMD Plumbing came out and installed it very quickly. They were in and out in less than 10 minutes. Then, a month later it seized up. They came back out and didn’t charge me at all for because it was part of the same reason. TMD needs to do a job better the first time and understand that. Other than that, it was fine.
However, I was unhappy with my experience because I was calling for it initially but none of the vendors that AHS goes through were open on the weekends, and it was a little disturbing because that was not my problem. The sump pump was leaking on a Saturday and they told me that I couldn't get anyone until Monday. There should be an emergency back-up plan for that deal, where someone is able to be contacted. I spent all day checking out and calling vendors that would come out to do it outside of the warranty and I had to pay for it out of my pocket. It was an inconvenience. But there was one guy that came out for the faucet and water heater, and he did a great job. Overall, I’m happy with my experience with American Home Shield.

When we called back, they were unable to come for another week so I called again, and they sent somebody else who had a totally different opinion of what was wrong. It is now fixed and it has been fine since. Everything’s a trade-off with AHS. It is great to know that if your air conditioner, water heater, stove, etc. cannot be repaired, it can ultimately be replaced. My dryer was making some crazy noise the moment I turn it on. It was like there was a monster inside. It was so loud I didn't want to even turn it on and one would think the whole machine was gonna break so we weren't using it at all. I smelled smoke too. I have a log-in for American Home Shield and I submitted a claim online. I was notified that they would have somebody contact me. Their dispatch place called me very quickly and asked me about the problem. I told them what was going on and they asked what my schedule looked like in the next few days. I told them that I just had a baby and I’m home every day.
The contractor came out within three days of me having the issue. The guy was very nice and professional. He also let my two older sons ask him a bunch of questions and look at things. It wasn't in his job description, but he put up with it. It turned out that there was a little pencil thing that fell out of my four-year-old's pocket and went through the little holes inside the dryer. So, the dryer will not break as long as I keep those objects out the dryer.
This was my first time placing a claim with AHS and I told my husband afterwards that I wish every company operated like them. When I first bought the house, I had another home warranty company that I absolutely despise with every being of my existence. It was awful to communicate with them and awful to use anybody. With AHS, everything was so easy and I was happy in the end. Everything was perfect and I didn't have to worry about anything.

I like American Home Shield and other than the fact that they should have a little bit faster service, I have no problem with them. We have a glass top stove that the burners sporadically would come on and come off and wouldn’t work at all. So we called AHS and made the claim, and they sent one company out. However, the first company that came out couldn’t fix it. They told AHS what the problem was and that they can’t resolve it. AHS wanted a second opinion on what was wrong with it, so they contacted another company to come out, and they’re still working on it.
We've also had a claim submitted for what I assumed was a leak on the floor in the garage. The AHS contractor came and they put cameras in the wall and did everything they could but they couldn’t find the leak, so that wasn’t it. Then another one was for the water heater because it was getting extremely hot. The contractor came out and put new elements in, and basically rebuilt the water heater. They put new thermostats, and it’s been working fine since then. Whenever AHS sends contractors out, I have great interaction with them and I talk to them the whole time. And the last one they sent out were great. The guy gave me his personal cell phone number and he said, “I have to contact them, get information, get parts. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for a leak in the kitchen and the rep was very easy to talk to. It was also very easy to get the scheduling done. The contractor who came out for this was very professional. I’ve had American Home Shield on my property for four years and I have several contracts with them. I also have one here in Denver and they sent a contractor out to look at my air conditioner. He wanted it to be that I needed Freon, but my system did not need that. He didn’t want to do anything else for me after that and he left. I called American Home Shield back and told them about it. I was not happy about it because American Home Shield told me that they would send somebody else out to diagnose the problem. If they came up with the same thing that that particular contractor came up, I would have to pay the service charge once again.
So instead of doing that, I called a contractor on my own. He came out and solved the problem for 200 dollars. I paid American Home Shield $100 to send that first guy out and then if I had to call them back and they send somebody else equally as that guy was, I would have paid $200 and the problem still wouldn’t have been solved. I get the problem that when dealing with the air conditioner problem, none of the people from AHS are acceptable. My air conditioner at my property in St. Louis went out and they sent a guy who was very professional on how he was gonna do it. However, AHS does not pay for Freon so the contractor wanted to charge me twice what the compressor was gonna cost for them to put Freon in it.
When I asked them for anything cheaper, they told me that they would not put anything but the Freon that was in there originally. However, the Freon that was in there originally has been banned by the environment which was why it cost so much. I asked AHS why we could not go with what is environmentally safe. They said that they had to put back in what I originally had. I called another air conditioner specialist who put a compressor in and cheaper Freon. It almost cost me what American Home Shield was, but it was a little bit higher. So, I would not recommend American Home Shield to anybody when dealing with the air conditioner part.

They said that American Home Shield would be back in touch and somebody else would come out and fix it. But that never happened. When A-Total Plumbing came out, they didn’t do anything for our well. They just said that they needed an actual well company to come out. American Home Shield sent another company and there was something out that the technician had to change.
At this point, the well is operating okay. But when he moved the power box out there, he messed something up and something is not working correctly. My husband contacted him and he was supposed to come out here and fix it. But he never showed up or answered our call again. He also sent us a bill instead of sending it to AHS. There was another time that one of the plumbing people came over here but it messed up our sump pump. Our sump pump flooded our basement and there was poop water everywhere. Our homeowner’s insurance does not cover that so our whole basement was ruined.

The dryer was not drying so I called American Home Shield. The contractor they assigned came and he said that he was going to change the thermostat and one of the switches but he never came back. American Home Shield and I contacted him and we couldn't get a hold of him. So, they assigned another contractor. It was a whole week wasted there.
When the second technician came, I explained to him what happened. He looked at the unit and said, “There’s nothing wrong with the thermostat. What’s wrong is there’s a lot of accumulation of lint. So, you’re gonna have to hire another company to do the vent cleaning.” I don’t know if AHS covers that because they say they don't cover anything outside. So, I just contacted a different contractor that used to see us Moreover, the fee that I pay before used to be $75 which I give to the contractor. Now, you don’t pay the contractor but you pay American Home Shield instead and then, they add the tax on top of that. So, it's much more expensive. I know there’s a lot of complaints about it when I spoke to the customer service.

The fridge part in my refrigerator stopped cooling, so everything was getting warm in the fridge. I submitted the claim online and once everything was submitted, the first available opening was quite outweighed out, so I called American Home Shield to see if it can get bumped up. The reps were very helpful and they informed me that it was through Sears, so I ended up calling Sears. I tried to see if there was anything they can get out earlier, which they were able to. They had somebody from Sears come out and look at the fridge. However, I was disappointed because they came and looked for the fridge. It was just my wife that was home. They did the repairs and said that they no longer made the part and that we would have to get a new fridge out of it. And then, randomly on a Sunday, we had a part show up at our house, but we never heard anything from Sears on when they were gonna come back.
I called American Home Shield and the lady who I spoke with the second time was amazing. She called over to Sears and tried to push for the repair to be expedited because they told me it would be another two weeks before they can get somebody out here to do the repair. At that point, it had been three to four weeks with us living without a cooler, which was unacceptable. They said that was all they could do, so she apologized that there wasn’t anything that she could do, and that was on Sears.
I did a little research myself and found out what the part was and how to replace, and I was able to replace it by myself in about five minutes. The unit has been working perfectly since the part had been replaced. It works great and everything is icy-cold. I haven’t had a problem since. Sears as the service center dropped the ball and the fact that they couldn’t get a tech to come out to do a five-minute repair was flabbergasting, to say the least.
I have friends that just moved here from California and I told them to ask for American Home Shield on their house. The realtor that I used always pushes American Home Shield when people are buying houses and I definitely recommend it. Once my one-year is done, I would be re-subscribing with them, so I could get my house, all my appliances, monitored under that warranty.

When I filed a claim for an attic fan to American Home Shield, I went online. The rep who worked with me was very helpful. I wasn't around when the contractor initially set up an appointment so they called and left a message on the answering machine. I got back with the person through cell phone and I was told that they were coming. They set up an appointment then they came out. When they ordered the part, it came in, they installed it and they were gone. It was quick and they did a good job.

WE have had AHS for years and have had a few minor repairs done. We had a problem with our hot water tank 7 months ago and they sent out a repair outfit from about an hour away. (No one local?) The "kid" replaced the elements and one of the thermostats and said the other one never goes out. (I think because he didn't have one.) The unit worked for a while before the water began overheating (scalding hot!) I called and requested that this be repaired over a week ago. AHS now says they can't find anyone to do this service. (I've been trying to get them for days, but keep getting put on hold and eventually cut off). After finally reaching someone, they sent me an e-mail that said I can find someone to fix it myself.
After I find someone, the contractor give them a complete estimate before they will authorize any payments. Then, the contractor must fix it and I must pay him in full and submit an invoice to AHS. They will then review it and may pay me less the service charge after I've done all their work. I have not found anyone to go through all their requirements (BS) yet. Many of the contractors simply get real aloof when I mention AHS...and say they have had experience and choose not to not business with them. I'm still having a simple overheating problem on an electric water heater.

Our AC problem started June 11. AHS sent vendor 4x to replace Freon. On the 4th time, the same vendor who went there the 3rd time on Aug 24, supposedly fixed it. However that vendor charged us $453 for Freon and wanted to be paid upfront for their failure to fix. The first 2x visit, we would pay $200+ per visit for Freon, no diagnostics and they didn't even attempt to fix it. The 3rd time, AHS picked up the tab after complaining. This ordeal has been very time consuming. The contractors AHS chooses are subpar and shady. At this point, we have bought our tenants a portable AC, reduced their rent for all the inconvenience and discomfort. We would have been better off putting money aside to insure our own appliances, choose our own contractors and handle own repairs than relying on AHS.

My A/C stopped working, so I called AHS. They don't have any contractors in Ohio, so they have you call someone on your own. They have a list of stipulations, but will only give that info over the phone (nothing on paper or email). Well you must pay the company's service fee, (AHS also takes a service fee) and send in the info. My AC stopped working end of June. Here it is end of August, and have not heard a peep from AHS, but I am out the two service fees and monthly payments from AHS. Not sure if I'm hot over lack of concern from AHS or if it is the fact my AC has yet to be fixed. You better off fixing it on your own.

This company has got to be a scam. My air conditioner went out on August 13th. They sent a contractor who was incompetent and had no idea what he was doing and blatantly admitted he couldn't fix it then flat out made up a story about it being a pre-existing condition. He had no proof or any reason whatsoever to think that. It took another week for AHS to find another technician who claimed he was capable of servicing our unit. He arrived on the 19th and also claimed he needed a second opinion and sent someone else to come the next day (Monday). It is determined my compressor is shot. Need to order a new one and the technician said his experience is that it can take 3-4 weeks to get the part ordered.
Meanwhile, I have my local AC guy come out and he says he can have the part ordered and REPLACED the next day. It is now Wednesday the 29th (17 days of no AC in 90 degree heat with 2 kids sleeping on air mattresses on our bedroom floor with a portable AC unit) and the AC company AHS sent me hasn't even filed a report to order the part. Throughout this entire ordeal, I have logged 19 phone calls to AHS and over 6.5 hours of time on hold with half the calls being disconnected. This company is a scam and should be put out of business.

I purchased a new home and my real estate agent recommended American Home Shield. Gave me a copy of the contract, which I paid in full at the time. I had 2 emergency issues come up. 1. Sewer started backing up into the house, sewer water coming out on the floor. I was proactive and immediately called a plumber. My 79 year old Mom is living there. The plumber found massive tree roots blocking the sewer line. They replaced the sewer line and added a clean out. I paid the bill. 2. The electricity went out in the hottest month of the year, again with my 79 year old Mom living there, so no electricity, no A/C in 100+ degree heat. So again, I was proactive, called the electrician who came right out and fixed the issue... Main breaker to the house was arching and went out. Again I paid in full.
I contacted AHS about filing the damages and submitting the repair bills for reimbursement. I was told that they were glad I was proactive, but because I didn’t contact them first, the claims would not be reimbursed. I’ve never had an insurance company fault me for being proactive! In fact they are happy when I’ve had to be proactive. This call us first was NEVER explained to me when I gave them the full price for their coverage...which has turned out to be USELESS!! I will not recommend this company to anyone. In fact the local Realtors will hear and see this review. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Then, multiple phone calls produced a nice electrician who said, no it's not the electric, it's the A/C. Now, after multiple phone calls, everyone in customer service saying we'd get a phone call back within the day, NOTHING. We have two young children and no A/C during 90/100 degree weather. Today we demanded to be cut a check for the amount they would cover so we can pursue this independently, and all of a sudden the computer system is down and we have to call back again. Plus they came out to service my dishwasher and my fridge --- still having same issue with DW and the "fix" for the freezer did not work! I had called back to report it and no one came out then after 2 weeks when I called back - they sent an email that they had attempted to contact/call me. I had no missed calls cell or work numbers...
I may be dropping this company and look for a company whose call center is IN the U.S. The people who answered the customer service phone when I called were nice enough but I had to request to speak to a supervisor 2 or 3 times before a person stating they were a supervisor came on the line to tell me the exact same thing...after I asked, "What if this was your money and your account, how would you feel waiting 3-5 business days waiting for your money to be returned?" Andrea* was nice. The rep before her was friendly. They repeated all the lines rehearsed in training I'm sure. I'm just really disappointed that I chose this company... :(

Our garage door was broken. A part was broken. I went online and scheduled someone to come out to fix it. That’s the only good thing. Super easy to schedule an appointment. The guy said the “part” that was broken isn’t covered. Only specific parts. So it’s cost me $100 for a two minute conversation. Part to fix was $200. The local guy down the street was $240 total. I never would have called AHS if I knew only certain parts are covered on items.
I called AHS and the lady said she understood and since I didn’t use them she would refund the $100. I waited a week. Called to see where the refund was and this lady said they do not refund for that. I spent an hour on the phone with her. First it was okay to refund but only if I booked the service on the phone not online like I did (mind you when you call the 800 number it says please book your service online!!!) then she said no it’s not refunded. She changed her mind 5x.
Finally I spoke to a manager for an hour going back and forth. She said it was covered then it wasn’t. Then it was. I had her on speaker to have witnesses that this was the biggest joke ever. I told her to pull the original call. I know they record their conversations. She said she would and it takes 3-5 days. I was asking more questions and she hung up me!!! I was on the phone for over two hours to be hung up on!!! And since they confirm your phone number when you speak to someone I know she knew my number and she never called me back which means she did it on purpose.
I waited TWO weeks to give them enough time. Called Monday, still no call pulled. But this lady would call me Tuesday. Still no call. I called Wednesday and they said the original lady never said she would refund. I would not be dealing with this for three weeks with a newborn for fun! I asked to listen to the call myself as I know for a fact they are now lying!!! The can’t let me listen to the call. How convenient. This is the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. 100% canceling and will go with someone else.

Aug 6th 2018, we reported electricity issue in our exercise room which is one of 6 rooms in the house. All rooms had electricity except that particular room. I called AHS to find out if electrical issue is covered by my contract and the rep confirmed so they scheduled technician to come to the house. The tech from City first Electric came to the house at 08/10/2018 and told my husband that the issue is compressed wire (whatever that means??) inside the wall which is a major job so it is not covered by contract. He said that he can do the job for $900.00 paid direct to him and it would take few hours. We did not agree with his assessment since it did not make sense to us. We had not done any recent work to the house and there has not been rain or leak that would cause any short in wiring.
I called AHS to complain about assessment and after long conversation, the rep agreed for 2nd opinion which they told me that someone will let me know the following week. On Monday Aug 13th, I asked independent contractor which we knew to come and check the issue. I was shocked when the guy went outside and came inside the house after 5 minutes and said that the issue is resolved!! I could not believe that We had electricity in that room after 5 minutes of diagnostic and seemingly repair!!! He said the issue was breaker outside the house which he fixed. I right away called AHS back and complaint about City First Electric misdiagnosis and solicitation of business for themselves through AHS. I also disputed the service fee that they are supposed to charge me. The rep agreed with me and apologized and assured me that I would not be liable for any service charge.
Few days later, I received an email from AHS for past due charge. I called again and talked to another rep and again explained the whole story and this time I asked for cancellation of the whole policy. They assured me again that I will not be liable for service fee and the contract will be cancelled. In my dismay, I got statement with past due service fee at 08/23/2018. I called again at 08/24/2018 and after being on the phone for 32 minutes and talking with Rose and then transferred to Chellse and then finally Bill, seemingly the manager I was told that I have to pay for wrong diagnosis. Bill did not even give me his last name or phone number.
The manager, Bill, was so rude and unprofessional over the phone. He did not even answer one of my questions and keep repeating the same script and not even apologizing for their vendor cheat and wrong diagnosis. I informed him that I will definitely sue his company for misrepresentation and misdiagnosis and he said that is fine by them. Later on I receive a denial letter dated 08/17/2018 which states that the condition of the issue were not normal wear and tear and wires had damage in attic. If their assessment was true then how come I have electricity now with just fixing the breaker within 5 minutes! I had similar experience in past with my water heater which I had to bring another company to fix the issue way less than what they wanted to charge me with their nonsense contractors and exclusions! Customers should support good honest business owners and AHS and their selected vendors are just cheaters!

I called because I noticed water just pouring out of my shut off valve to my sprinkler line. Paid $75 plumbing tech arrives calls American Home Shield. They say they do not cover sprinklers and denied my repair. I the tech then called me to advise me very confused because it was not a sprinkler that was leaking it was the valve. I then pulled my contract and read it stated they do not cover fire sprinklers which I don’t have fire sprinklers. Number one I have irrigation sprinklers and that was not what was leaking. It states in the contract they cover gate valves which is pretty similar to a shut off valve. So I called the representative told me again they don’t cover sprinklers. I said its not a fire sprinkler which is located in commercial buildings it’s a shut off valve to my irrigation sprinklers.
I asked if you cover a hose bibb and gate valve how can you not cover a shut off valve? He stated he would contact the plumber back to get a more detail on the issue and be back in touch because I asked to speak to a supervisor. After we hung up I called the plumber he said he was going to send a picture so they could see what exactly was going on. I then get a email the case was closed. So at this point I’m livid because I was told a supervisor would call me back so I call back. The lady argues once again about a sprinkler I asked to have my $75 back to take care of the repair that they failed to do as a single mother of 3 children. The plumber quoted me $249 for the repair on top of my $75 that American Home Shield collected and did not work with me to even attempt to take care of my water pouring out my shut off valve.
Also I asked where it stated in my contract that they didn’t cover anything outside because I was also told that by the representative and she couldn’t not point it out. I’m so disappointed with American Home Shield service and lack of care for their customers. I’ve been in plumbing for the last 16 years and I know the difference between a irrigation sprinkler & fire sprinkler also a shut off valve versus a sprinkler and I know that I was stiffed for $75 and I don’t even wanna ever bother with them again. I don’t do business like this. I’ve seen so many complaints now that I have researched and it’s sad they remain in business able to do this kinds of stuff to people. I want my $75 and to end my contract with them.

I've been with American Home Shield for four years and when I submit a claim, I call them. The people at AHS are usually prompt. Also, the people they hire to do the work are good and have done very well. They come to service certain things and make sure that it's okay. And if something happens and it doesn't work, they'll come back and fix it. AHS always does what I think they should do. The only problem I have with them is that their price keeps going up every year, so I keep paying more and more. But everything goes up, so they have to raise their price as well. Then they said that they got me confused with somebody, and they were coming on Wednesday. They called and said they were on their way but they never came. I then asked for another vendor and they came right away. They have been here before and they worked for American Home Shield. Since the repair, the toilet has been working fine.
I've had American Home Shield for 14 years ever since I've been in this home. But I am extraordinarily disappointed with them and I have even searched Google to see who their president is. When I had a problem several years back with my air conditioner, they sent somebody out that said that it was hail damage but we had no hail at all. It was old. Then one time, somebody came out and put some of the Freon in it. Then the last time last year, it stopped working. I called AHS and they sent out a guy. I had complained before about them saying that it was hail damage and it was not. It was rusted out.
To cover their butt, they sent another vendor out but both vendors that they sent out worked for American Home Shield so I knew when the second vendor comes, they were going to say the same thing. They didn't fix it and this year I ended up out of my money. I bought myself a new heating and cooling system, and I started to cancel AHS because of it but I thought about if something electrical or something happens. I'm keeping American Home Shield. But when people ask me about it, I'd tell them not to get it. My biggest mistake was to replace my heating and cooling costing me almost $8,000. I have been a good customer, made my payments for 14 years, and they would not replace that air conditioner.
I would have paid to upgrade it but they would not do it and I'm real iffy about even keeping it because now, even the people who replaced my air conditioner which is a reputable, big company here, they have something similar to American Home Shield. I'm gonna think about them when my contract ends this year. I wish that I had called channel 4 like those other people did because one person got theirs replaced. Everywhere I go, I tell people about American Home Shield. I told them not to do it with them because not do a big replacement.

DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY. They will give you the runaround for DAYS and each time you speak to them they claim they are going to "fix the situation". If by "fixing the situation" they mean continuing to ignore you and not do their job, then they sure do one hell of a job doing such! Save the apologies, they do not matter, and actually do what you are paid to do.

Service came quick but the coolant cost $90 per pound. AHS only covers $10. Why would AHS not cover my product? This is the purpose of the insurance. We had something go wrong, why wouldn't it be covered? This service call is going to cost far more than it should have. Be prepared to pay for your contract and then have many expenses on top of that. When they say they cover items you better read the fine print because they pay a minimal coverage.

I refused and called AHS that day and was told that the problem was between us and the plumbing co. I then contacted another plumbing Company. They did not require any additional cleanout installed. AND their contractor are working a scam.

We have been without our air conditioner since June 26th. This was the hottest summer on record here. Over 100+ for most of July. Crystal Air was dispatched by AHS. They came quick... but then that was it. They said they ordered parts then days, weeks go by. I called for updates with no help. They then said I didn’t approve the cost that were not covered... not once did they call me. Because of all the delays I asked for cash -in -Lieu... that took 2 weeks. Their quote was 4500.00 than the actual cost of the materials. This was the quote that Crystal Air told them... so 2 weeks ago I called and said, "Please have them repair my air..." Still no calls back from Crystal Air! 2 months to repair an air conditioner!

I don’t usually do this, but this company has left me no other recourse. DO NOT use American Home Shield home warranty company. If you need to have a home warranty, find another company. They refused to cover an issue on our house multiple times, sent out a contractor who put his foot through my ceiling and never repaired the hole he made, never called me back to explain the reason why they weren’t covering the issue, made me call multiple times and sit on the phone for hours. Their customer service, while nice, are not trying to help the customer and fight for us, they are there to just send you on a wild goose chase. And, then to cancel my plan, they made me sit on the phone on hold for another half an hour and then charged me an additional administrative fee to cancel my account with them.
DO NOT use AHS home warranty company and for that matter, if you are in Kansas City, do not use Lynch Electrical for your electrical needs. They went in my attic, put a hole in my roof and said “oops” and walked out without ever coming back to fix it. I’m not a vindictive type of person, but when companies leave you no choice, you have to say something.

This service is a complete waste of money. They will send out a technician who will not even test your appliance but will take photos and come to a determination that he would have had to be present at the time of failure to know. They basically steal money from you for the service fee to pay an individual that works in their best interest, and will make up information to support their interest, and there is no way to remedy the situation without paying them again to come out with a different technician. I feel completely scammed and I encourage any home buyers or sellers to look elsewhere. This IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

Contacted AHS to repair our a/c. We live in Texas and our home was reaching temperatures in the mid 90s. Said we would hear from the a/c company within 24 hours, never heard from them. Called AHS for follow up and nothing was resolved. Asked to speak with supervisor and was hung up by customer service rep twice. Three days later a/c still broken and contacted the repair company directly. They informed us that they were going to call but AHS had sent them two cancellations, that's why they never contacted us. Still have not heard back from AHS regarding this matter and have been unable to speak to a higher authority to resolve this issue. Do not use this company. They don't care if you and your family are suffering in the heat. To make matters worse my wife is sick and we have a special needs dog. We ended up having to pay $700 out of pocket for an a/c company to fix at least one of our units.

I used American Home Shield like an insurance policy so if something would go wrong, I could get it fixed. And it worked for me. When my air conditioner wasn't cooling, I submitted a claim over the phone and it was easy to do. The company then contacted me quickly and got here reasonably fast. They diagnosed the issue and sent someone else out to fix it. It took 72 hours to get the unit repaired and the contractors who came to my house were good. My unit has been working well since.

My husband submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our water heater that was broken. It wasn't long when they sent out the techs. I wasn't present when they looked at the water heater, so it made me feel a little uncomfortable. I let them in in the garage and then I went back into the house. And then when I came back out, they had already written everything up. Still, we were satisfied with what they did when they were finished. They also cleaned up after themselves. The water heater is working now.

Nevertheless, the reps I had spoken with on the phone were also good. I heard back from the contractor that was coming out in 24 hours. They even came a little bit earlier than usual. They came in on a weekend, he fixed it, and it was pretty good. He explained what was going on and what he was doing. Since the repair, the unit has been good and working.

When the big burner of my stove burned out, I called American Home Shield to make a claim. Their claims rep was very good and helpful. The technician from Care Appliance Repair came out the next day and replaced the parts, but left it way in the back. Every time I would turn the stove on, I would have to push it in more so that it would turn on. And while it was on, it would turn off so I would have to jiggle it to get it to come back on. But he came back out and fixed that. I think that AHS is contracting with such small businesses whereas a bigger company has more experienced people.
When my AC was out, the technician took a week to get out then another week to fix it. The technician said that it was something so simple and easy that he could come out the next day. But I guess he was the only one working for that company, so it was just whenever he had time. It also took a while to go pick up the parts. Other than that, everything was good.

It was easy submitting the claim online for our garage door. But when the technician came, he said that the part that was broken was not covered under the American Home Shield. That has happened to us several times now. So when you write in what the claim is for, I wish it would say that it is not covered before they send somebody over and then they tell you it’s not covered. But AHS usually sends out technicians fast so that's good. I would recommend AHS and tell people that it's better to be on the safe side.

We had a leak in the motor area of the spa. The process to submit a claim to American Home Shield was easy and they worked perfectly. They were very responsive and they would tell us through email who was gonna come. We live in a gated community so we need to know who's coming so that we can get them in through the gate. Maui Pool came out and they were excellent. The fellow who came was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The problem was a rubber ring that had degraded, which resolved within the leak, and he fixed it.
We have American Home Shield for two years now and we're very happy with them. We’ve had several previous home warranty companies over the course of the years in both the house we live in now in Indian Wells, and a previous home when we lived in Los Angeles, and American Home Shield is the best. Every month, when I'm mad at paying other bills, I'm happy to pay their bill. We've had a couple of other people out on other things, and the service people that AHS contracted to come out and do things seemed to be universally good.

The spring on my garage door popped so I called American Home Shield to submit a clam, let them know of the issue, and tell them that I needed somebody to fix it. They sent me an email saying they would dispatch a contractor within 24 hours. The contractor came and looked at the spring. Then they called AHS to see if that was covered by the warranty and they were told that it wasn’t. But since I already had the contractor there, I had them fix it and I paid out of pocket for the repair. I would tell people to make sure that they ask AHS first if an item is covered by the warranty before a contractor is dispatched.
On the other hand, my experience with another claim for my air conditioner was excellent. The technician that came was courteous and very professional. He sent me a text message so that I would know that he was on his way and he came on time. He knew what he was doing and he was there for 15 minutes. He fixed my AC and everything has been going great since the repair.

The fan of the air conditioner wouldn’t blow even though the light would show that the compressor was on. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was easy navigating their website. When the tech came out, I walked him in and showed him what the deal was. He looked around and originally just thought that perhaps the drain line had gotten clogged. So, he put a vacuum on it and sucked out whatever water was in there, and that was it. But then the next day or two, the air conditioner wouldn’t turn on at all. I called back and it was about another week before the second guy came out. He said my fan was bad and so he replaced it. Since the repair, the air conditioner has been working great.
I’ve had great service from American Home Shield. Sometimes though it would take a while to get things done, but I live in the Keys so I know that it takes a while for people to show up. They have a saying down here in the Florida Keys that if your employee is 15 minutes late, he’s a good employee. Fortunately, I’m not in a spot where anything that breaks is life-threatening.
You'd get a washer break and it would take a few days for the parts, and I’m patient about that. But my daughter sometimes says, “Can’t they come right out right now? We’re paying for this service and if I wanna pay $900, I could have somebody out today and they will come out and fix it today." But I don't have that kind of money to pay for that level of service. Before I started using American Home Shield, I had an issue and I called a plumber. They are 24/7 and they give fast service. So, the guy came out right away, but the estimate to make the repair was around 900 bucks. That was a lot just to get the washer fixed right away. It can wait a few days and we can go to the laundromat if we have to wash something. So overall, I’m satisfied and happy with American Home Shield's service.

My experience was horrible. A guy came and looked at our AC and he said that the coil was not on the AC. He even took a picture of it, and then he said they didn't make that Freon anymore for our AC. He also said he can get us two AC units at a discounted price. I told him it was a lot of money and then he talked to my husband.
He kept calling back about two or three times to see if he could bring a new AC because the house was 110 degrees. I finally told him the next day that I would call around and see if I could price a new AC. On the third day, we were still without AC, so I called American Home Shield and said I still haven't heard anything about our AC and nobody has contacted me.
The rep said the tech hasn't turned in a report yet. I told her that the tech was here and told me that we needed a new AC. She said she would call him on the phone. So, the lady with AHS called him on the phone and she came back and said the tech said that I needed the AC. And as soon as she gets his report, she would let me know. Then my husband came home and told me to call the tech and tell him that we're looking around for a better priced AC because he offered my husband an $8,000 for the AC.
I called AHS again and then they said that the tech told them we didn't need a new AC and that he could just replace the coil. I felt like just because we told them no that he turned around and changed his statement. And I found two new ACs for $6,000 a piece. Plus they had a 20-year and a 30-year warranty on it, which was something different than the tech offered plus a lower price.
The tech was blowing up our phone. He said he already talked to his supervisor and that he can have the new AC by that afternoon and install it. It was just a mess. When I tried to call over to that company, Royal AC, to try to talk to somebody, nobody would call me back and nobody was answering my calls. I even sent an email and they wouldn't respond. So, then on their Facebook, I told them to respond to all my messages. I also explained what happened and their answer to me was just a sad face.
I told AHS about it and the rep apologized and said she would just type it up and that was it. So then we took our money out of pocket and went ahead and bought a new AC. And then AHS said that they would give me the $400 to put towards the AC. I just received the reimbursement two days ago. However, I think I'm gonna cancel my policy with them and also thinking about getting a lawyer for this $13,000 because it just doesn't make any sense to me. We lost our whole house during the flood and when we lost everything, American Home Shield would not cover anything. And their answer to me was if we plugged in our refrigerator and it worked, even if it was just for 13 minutes, then they will come out and cover the AC.
But because our house was in the water, I didn't plug my refrigerators, stove and dishwasher. We put everything out in the yard and bought all new stuff. I was under the impression that none of it worked. Our AC has been working for almost a year. They can't say that it was the flood because it has been working. The guys that I hired came and put this AC in. One of the pipes got clogged upstairs and it leaked water for two weeks since I've had it. And now, my ceiling caved in.

Overall I have to say that my experience with AHS has been one in which the service providers are friendly yet continuously find a way to meet the minimal commitment or terminology that makes things excluded from coverage. I have now been an AHS customer for over four years and after doing the cost benefit of my monthly fee + service call fees I have not yet seen the value. The main driver has been the denial or fixing minor things instead of replacing. These items are things that I can call any plumber or contracting company to fix for the equivalent amount of a service fee which makes me wonder why I even pay the monthly fee.
Most recently I had a filed a claim for a leaky toilet shut off valve. This valve size is no longer made because of the age of the house and would require a new pipe to be welded in place of current one. The plumbers that came out were very friendly but after looking at the leak simply tightened the bolt in the back and said it won't leak anymore. For a 5 minute job I still paid the $75 service fee but I would have really preferred that the root cause (old pipe) would have been addressed because I know that I will have to place another call eventually to address it.
A year ago I also placed a call for my garage door failing. I re-read my contract recently and I noticed that I had the extra coverage to cover things that were not installed properly etc. When I inquired about it the AHS representative mentioned that their notes show that it was failing due to secondary damage because the rails were rubbing against the unit because of my low ceilings and over time the opener failed. Now to me this was something that sounds like improper installation as it was something that nobody would be able to find prior to me purchasing the home. In summary, after 4 years I am questioning whether to renew as I have not seen the value after my last two service calls.

Per AHS, my air conditioner has a "pre-existing condition". I know, right? That's the whole reason I bought your product. That's the reason your product exists. The 'condition' they referred to was created by the repair team THEY sent out last year to 'repair' our A/C. They then covered nothing for our repair estimate, and therefore gave us nothing towards the new A/C we ended up purchasing, since we obviously were not going to use any company with whom they attempt to do business.
My husband and I have tried to get something for the nearly $3000 we have paid to them in the last 4 years and have been met with hours-long phone calls consisting of 40-minute hold times and employees with scripts and no power. Twice we have been told that the most recent $75 service charge would be waived, and that our credit card information had been removed from our file. Imagine my complete and utter frustration this morning when I discovered that amount charged to our credit card by this fraudulent company.
I am currently on hold with the company, trying to get someone to tell me the name of their agent for service of process in my state so that I can serve them with a lawsuit for fraud, breach of contract, etc. This is a prime class action case where a judge would certainly be inclined to grant punitive damages. Judging by our experience, I imagine this happens to many, if not most, AHS customers.

Updated on 08/28/2018: Problem still not corrected. This is a response that AHS wants to keep private. I appreciate your quick response to the 2 issues. I spoke to Chrissie (sp?) yesterday and she promised that she would send the best technician to fix my AC. That was a joke. The company that she is sending is the original company that you sent a month ago, who never corrected the problem. Which you had said in the past that you would send to my home.
