The air conditioner was not working after a power outage, but the company that American Home Shield assigned was supposed to show up on a Friday. They called that Thursday and said that the earliest that they would be there is by 2:00. Then they cancelled and said that they could not work on our air conditioner for a minimum of two weeks and had to reschedule some other time. We complained that we were without air for three weeks already and they said if I wanted anything earlier than that, we would have to pay an emergency service call for $200. We called AHS and told them about this and they also checked and saw that the company cancelled on us within less than 24 hours. They went out of their way and fixed that matter for me. They were able to make that person come that Monday.

This air conditioning company had worked on the AC before. Two of their reps came to the house and didn't fix it on the first shot, then one of them said that I needed a new air conditioner for $9,000. On the next visit after we had the power outage, this other guy who came out to finish the job said that the AC was gonna go out soon and we needed a new one and it was $12,000 plus to do. They were really pushing that the AC couldn’t be fixed. And we’re probably gonna have another air conditioner company. Other than that, AHS did a very good job on their end. They took the call, responded real quick, and advocated for us. If we didn’t have them, I would’ve been trampled by that company, for sure. So I’m very happy with their service.

I have a 3 Zone with three thermostats and one room was not getting air conditioning. There was a thermostat outside the room and I pushed the control all the way down to 66.2 but the room still was not cool. I found out that the thermostat was not hooked up to the air conditioner so I had to go to the other room where there was a thermostat that controlled both bedrooms. I called it in to American Home Shield and the contractors that they sent were very courteous and professional.

The bedroom was large and it had four vents while the other room had two. The contractors recommended that I shut down two vents and now, the other room is much cooler. Since then, it has been great. However, when the jet was cracked in one of the Whirlpool tubs, the contractor that was sent out said that they only cover the machinery. I asked him why they didn't say that because that was exactly how I made the claim. I still haven't found anybody able to replace the jet but other than that, everything else has been fine.

The service contractors we’ve had through American Home Shield have been excellent. I’ve been extremely pleased. One time, it took a number of days to get somebody out which was a little frustrating. But sometimes that happens and once the person came, he was nothing but helpful and good. I recently had a claim for the water heater that wasn't working and they had to replace it. I have been very pleased and I have recommended AHS.

My AC was not turning on at all. I then phoned in my claim to American Home Shield and the rep I talked to was good. I first started off with one person and I looked them up if they were not in regulation. So then, I had spoken to her again and she set me up with someone who was completely amazing, very professional and nice. The contractor was early. The quality of service I got was really good. The AC is working now.

Our swamp cooler had an issue that had something to do with the water going through. Submitting this claim to AHS this time was easy, unlike the previous claims. Before, when there is an issue, it takes forever on the phone. I go on hold and then when I get a person, they just wanna argue with me or with the professional about something that they don't know anything about. It just seems like jumping through hoops every time and I may or may not be covered. I can be on hold for two hours and the professional doesn't get to charge his time for any of that. We've had good contractors every time and I just feel bad for them.

I wish AHS would cut down the red tape of arguing with the professionals. If they didn't think they were the right person to send and that they didn't know what they're talking about, then they shouldn't have sent them to me in the first place. When the professional has to call in, they either need to be talking to someone that knows what they're talking about. It's obvious that they're just looking at a book for the answers. It seems like a ridiculous process.

We bought the house March of last year and we signed up for American Home Shield when we got it. I also had AHS for my old house too. We had a plumbing issue and it was easy when I submitted a claim with them online. When the guy came out, he fixed the issue quickly. But he broke one of the bolt covers that was on my toilet and he used my towel too to get up the water. Before, when somebody came out, they brought their own things. Other than that, everything else is working fine. Unexpected things might come up, but I would recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield was very helpful. They did what they needed to do. When our water wasn’t getting warm and was coming completely cold, I called AHS and someone from Gaithersburg Plumbing came over almost immediately and said the switch wasn’t working. But then it worked for two days and then it went off again. I called AHS again and they resent the contractor. Then he emptied the tank and did some cleaning. He was there for a couple of hours doing different stuff. My husband was very demanding but he was very pleased with the plumber.

Our toilet rattled and was not seated correctly. It wobbled back and forth when we sat on it. Most of the time, my husband has submitted claims with American Home Shield over the phone since he didn't like to do things like that online. The contractor that they sent out fixed the problem. We're very happy with AHS and we keep paying them our money every year to keep up our subscription. We’ve had several things that their contractors have come out and done over the five years that we’ve had this house. I have a friend whose hot water heater ruptured and her house flooded, but the company that she had her warranty with didn’t have a contractor get to her very quickly. She was not very happy with her warranty company and I suggested that she go with AHS. We’ve been satisfied with AHS and we've recommended them to others.

The air conditioner wasn’t getting below 73 and within a couple of days, a contractor was sent to my home. But this guy at I&M was probably the rudest contractor I ever dealt with. He talked down to me and acted like he knew everything. I was absolutely offended by how he interacted with me. He added two pounds of Freon then I came to find out when the next company came that the unit that didn’t need more Freon. I&M charged me 180 bucks for that too. Our sales rep, Steve, covered the bill with I&M. He also waived the $125 claim fee to make it right, which was appreciated.

The second company removed the Freon that the I&M guy put in erroneously. Then the technician did a much more thorough inspection. He checked everything out and said that the unit was operating correctly. I disagreed with that but after Steve got that company to come out, he left it at that. I had an installation guy come out outside the scope of AHS to see why the air conditioner was still not cooling after two companies told me it was working. So I'm not overly thrilled with American Home Shield and I'm not sure if I’m gonna renew. I'm a Realtor and I do refer American Home Shield to my clients a lot. They haven’t really had complaints but I personally didn't really have a great experience. The main reason I got the warranty was because of the air conditioner. But as it started to act up, I felt like I was getting the runaround.

It was really fast. He came to the door and introduced himself. Then we told him what the problem was and he went about to do his thing. He did a diagnosis and looked inside the unit. He said the coil system inside was bad and they would have to replace that. Everything has been fantastic since the service. Recently purchased a home and provided either the “top” American Home Shield plan. AC started acting up and they responded quickly to get a technician out. Upon checking the reviews discovered it is the lowest rated one around. Technician spent two minutes dissembling my unit and said it needed cleaning. Simple job but he had to get authorization. He failed to assemble the unit how he found it and left. Next day AHS calls and says that the AC had organic material and would have to be remediated which is not covered. They offered to send another company with absolutely horrible ratings for a second opinion. I ended up getting it cleaned and there was zero mold or organic material. Buyer beware if you choose to get a plan with them. Better off saving your money to do your own repairs.

We have had AHS for over 5 years and we have had a problem with our AC every year. $125 for the initial service fee. Every year we are low on Freon. How many times does this normally happen before someone wonders why it is always low. Finally got someone to do some more research and wouldn't you know it, it is going to cost us more money to fix it because it is something not covered by the insurance. And now we find out that along the line of the auto renewals they added a cancellation fee. How convenient. I am gladly paying it just to get away from them and cutting my losses. What a waste.

I called to inquire about the cost of a plan for my home. I was speaking to Nye and she was giving me the information for the combo plan, which I requested. She told me there are 3 deductibles, $75, $100 and $125 and which one did I want. I asked for the pricing on all 3 as I had no idea what they charge. I proceeded to ask her what the pool would cost if I added it to the plan. She asked me what plan, I proceeded to tell her the combo plan that we've been discussing. She asked which deductible, I asked for figures for all 3 deductibles and she seemed to be annoyed and just hung up on me.

If we had been disconnected, I would think she would or someone from the company would call back. She had my phone number. If you have no desire to answer questions. either hand the call off to someone else, ask your manager if you don't know or just find another job. Customer service is the 1st person customers usually talk to but with that kind of customer service, I won't be using American Home Shield.

There is no transparency between departments. I was transferred from customer service to Parts only to be transferred back to customer service who then said they could not resolve without Parts. Then I get transferred back to parts and so on. I have literally spent over 10 hours playing this runaround and meanwhile my full time job is interrupted and no oven for over 3 weeks and counting. I was offered two options from AHS. The first being replacement parts that which have an eta of 3-5 weeks just to be shipped to the service contractor or a ridiculous buyout offer.

After being bullied by an 'escalated claims' customer service employee into waiting for the replacement parts, I still have not received authorized confirmation to push the parts order through due to the inability of the Parts department to provide a consistent reply to me, the contracted servicer or customer service. Even after numerous calls with no less than a 30minute wait time for each department, my oven is still no closer to be fixed let alone functioning. Without resolve, the hopes of even receiving a call back are looking grim.

My toddlers, husband, and I can not bear another stove top or microwaved meal. The amount of money we have had to spend on take-out and frozen dinners, and lost food for that matter, plus the service fee, and time lost at work are quite frankly equivalent to what I would spend on a brand new oven! American Home Shield is not worth the money or hassle. I will NEVER renew American Home Shield again or recommend them to anyone! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

AC wasn't working. Called AHS, paid the $70 service fee, waited a week and was never contacted by their contractor. Called AHS back, was told that they were supposed to come out and service the AC unit w/in 72 hours of my first call. Was then given the option to get outside authorization. The AHS contractor couldn't see me for another week, the outside company was able to be there 3 days later. Per the AHS outside auth guidelines, I called AHS while the outside contractor was inspecting the AC for an estimate. After 1/2 hour on hold w/AHS, the technician had to leave for his next appointment. Finally when AHS answered, they initially refused to call the tech about the estimate even though he left me his personal cell #. The tech told me AHS could contact him, but he would not call them back due to their reputation of being difficult. I finally got the rep at AHS to give the tech a call.

Another week goes by with no contact from AHS. I called back, explained the situation and was placed on hold while the AHS rep called the contractor. When the rep came back on the line I was told they got a hold of the tech and to go ahead and schedule the work. I was also given an address where to mail the bill for reimbursement. I paid $2800.00 out of pocket for the replacement of the AC unit and mailed the bill to the address provided, and was told I'd receive a check w/in 7-10 days of receipt of the bill by AHS.

Over a month later, I had not received a check for reimbursement and called AHS. I was told the reimbursement was denied. I had received no communication regarding the denial. Apparently AHS is saying the tech was never spoken with. My response is that I would not have had a $2800 job done without the approval of AHS, and if I had not been authorized, why would I have been given the address where to mail the bill for reimbursement? I am now waiting for AHS to pull the recording of the call where I was given the go-ahead to have the work done.

I am very upset and frightened, since I was under the belief I was being reimbursed, within the month, and now I am afraid I will have to miss a mortgage payment, and I have not even been in my home a year. The stress of potentially not being reimbursed due to an AHS employee error is causing me to lose sleep. I am very disappointed with the accusatory tone I have been given by AHS employees when trying to resolve this issue. I would not have authorized this to be done without being given the go-ahead by AHS. When I was given authorization, I was told I would not receive anything in writing from AHS stating the authorization was granted, only verbal. I would advise anyone dealing with this company to record all calls with them.

They would not look at the water that was leaking next to the pump. They said I had to make a separate call for the leak and pay another $100. That was ridiculous and I was not happy with that. I work in software and I develop those types of applications. There was no choice on the site such as, “Do you have multiple issues with the swimming...” Also, they could allow us to click on multiple choices like, “Please pick more than one issue if you think...” But I also submitted a claim online for the air conditioning and I had a very nice experience with their contractor who fixed the issue.

I made a claim with American Home Shield when my washer was making a weird sound that sounded like there was somebody trapped in there and kept banging on the wall. I went on their website and scheduled a service. Thereafter, somebody local called me right away and scheduled as well. They ordered the appliances for that washer, and fixed it within a week. The contractor was very attentive. He called me and kept me updated on the status as well as the time they will arrive. Also, it's been really pleasant working with a local and authorized repair service. Overall, I'm happy with AHS and I would recommend them.

When there was a gas leak and it was going into the water heater, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. Their claim process was easy. The plumbers called me, then they came over and took care of the problem. The same plumbing company already came before for other issues and the experience was fine. However, there was one issue before that needed more time so we're just waiting for them to come over to fix that issue. AHS could follow up a little more on open issues. But other than that, I would tell other people to get AHS as it takes the stress out of getting the repairs done. People can call AHS and then AHS finds the right person for them.

I gave the contractor the code for the garage because the house was unoccupied, and he went in and took care of it. He called me back in a few minutes to tell me what the problem was and that he had already fixed it. He had to replace a part and put Freon in it. He was great. Since then, our air conditioner has been great. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and easy to use. There weren’t a lot of hoops to jump through. American Home Shield is known throughout our community through word of mouth. My neighbor told me about them and my father has been on my back about getting American Home Shield. When I submit a claim with them, I usually do it over the phone. The reps I spoke with are always professional. They take care of things quickly and it is wonderful.

Since I'm selling my home, I'm doing repairs all the time. I made a claim for my faucet and the tub handle that were broken, and the toilet that had a constant drain. The contractor American Home Shield sent out replaced a faucet that I have purchased and fixed both the tub handle and the toilet. I also have a washer that was leaking and the contractor came and fixed it. However, the washer now makes a horrible noise every time it washes. Because I do laundry every 10 days now, it was a few weeks that had passed before I realized it was doing that every time. I called American Home Shield and they said I have to pay another $70 for this separate issue. I told them that it wasn't doing that before they came and then, I just let it go. Still, I will always have American Home Shield. I'll buy another house in about three years and my priority is to purchase American Home Shield. I also tell everyone about them.

Our upstairs AC stopped working at our house in Western NC. Called AHS and asked for repair. They have 2 vendors: Cam Heating and AC is 30 minutes away in Etowah, NC and the other Rabb Heating and AC is 3 hours away in Rock Hill, SC. Rabb did not answer their call. The other vendor could not come out to assess the problem for at least one week. They will not expedite the order unless someone in the home has a health problem or it is 105 degrees outside. 105. Based upon our experience AHS would be fine if you did not need service in any type of a rush. There is a local AC/Heating company but they are not contracted with AHS so they will not reimburse for that expense. We decided to go with the local provider and pay the money to have the AC fixed and will never recommend AHS. Before you purchase a contract from AHS read the reviews from other sites other than their own website.

When I called AHS to notify them, they said that TexAir would be calling me shortly to schedule a time to come out. It is now after 3 pm and I still have not heard from TexAir and called AHS back. I was again told that TexAir would call me by the end of the day to schedule an appt for tomorrow!!! Already 2 days without AC in Texas!!! I asked AHS if there was another AC company that they contracted within San Antonio that might be able to actually call me and come out today. The answer was yes, BUT - that will be an extra service charge!!! Thank you AHS for the lack of concern and lack of customer service!

The vendor said it will take 10 days until they can send a technician over to fix my garage door. I called back the customer service and asked for another vendor. They said it will be another 24 hrs until they find the new vendor. The story short, it took me 5 days and spending hours on the phone and finally no one was sent over to fix it. One of friends found a temporary solution so I can leave town.

I came back in late July and called Home Shield warranty. The exact same scenario was repeated. Calls after calls and no vendor to come fix the issue for me. The only thing I got over the phone was repeatedly asking me security questions! I have two rentals and paid over $1000 since I started the service and did NOT get ANY service. They have extremely irritating process. I canceled the service on the phone. Now, why I am writing this?! This will be the second time an AHS certified technician either completely missed an issue or performed an installation incorrectly - and additional order, in relation to repairing our A/C unit was only necessary because the technician called to fix the furnace installed wiring incorrectly. Was told the service fee still applied because each case was a separate work order. If you enjoy paying multiple times to get the same issue fixed, AHS is the warranty company for you.

This is the second similar incident with AHS in one year. On June 14th just days before my LO's birthday party our dishwasher broke (Starts, Blinks, and Stops). I submitted a service call online around 6 PM and I couldn't get an response from the contract even by COB next day which was Friday. AHS told me that they couldn't assign a different contractor until they receive a confirmation from contractor that he isn't available. They were closed on Saturday and Sunday. I called AHS on Monday to find a different contractor and no response from them either, apparently there are not many contractors in Raleigh, NC who can work on Samsung Dishwasher. As per AHS customer service person, I had to wait till Wednesday to call so they can reassign me to a different contractor. And I did.

They finally assigned a contractor who works with Sears. I could secure an appointment a week later and took a day off to take care of the dishwasher. Guess what? The guy said that they overbooked him and he can't make it. I had to make another appointment. Long story short today is 08/20 and they still don't know what part would fix the dishwasher so they ordered another part. AHS says that they can't do anything about it. It's been more than 2 months, I paid more than $1200 for my warranty and my service call was $75 and my dishwasher is still not fixed. WORST SERVICE EVER.

Last week our A/C went out on our new home. Wife made a claim with American Home Shield, and they sent out a contracted company. It took almost a week for the A/C company to come out to do the diagnostics, when they did come out they told us the compressor was burnt out and needed to be replaced. This was ok, as this is a part covered by the warranty. The tech said we would submit his report to AHS to get it authorized. Mind you our house is currently really hot inside @ 92 with all the fans on. This was on Thursday early afternoon. Friday mid morning, my wife called AHS to see if it was all approved. They said they still needed a report from the technician.

We explained that they were at the house yesterday to inspect the system, and that the tech said he sent in the report. The representative from AHS called the AC company and for some reason couldn't get the diagnostic report from the company, they told us that the AC company hasn't sent in the report. So hung up with AHS and called the AC company to find out what's going on, and they told me they sent in the diagnostics to AHS already. Called back AHS and they said maybe the report just hadn't been put in the system yet, and to call back later.

We slept uncomfortably in our hot and muggy house with our infant, and called back AHS the next day (Saturday) to make sure the report was with AHS and to get confirmation that they had the diag sheet. They said they still haven't gotten it yet, and the rep reached out to the A/C company again. The A/C company said that they will send in the diag sheet. (We were already under the impression, based on previous conversations that this had already been done.) We were informed by AHS that the A/C company was sending in the sheet and it should all be fine.

We called back the next day Sunday to check status, and AHS still did not have the Diag report. At this point I was very upset and told them if they can't get the required info from one of their contractors, we should use another. I told them I would pay for the additional service fee to get a company over to our house to inspect the A/C and get the AHS a diag sheet so they can approve the repairs, as the company that they originally sent out doesn't seem like they can do this important task. They said they can't do this... I inquired as to why, because it seems that the company they sent is incompetent, and can't even properly fax or email a diagnostic report over to an insurance company in a timely manner.

They just stammered and said that they need the company to send in the diagnostics. At this point I had it with the runaround from someone who couldn't do anything and asked to speak to a supervisor or someone that seemed like they cared. After a 20 min wait, I got on the phone with a supervisor who gave me some BS excuse that maybe the report had been received, but just not entered into the computer. I said, "Great, can you please check on this to see if that is the case." She said she couldn't do that, and I would need to wait till Monday to check. I said, "Fine, what time will you call me back on Monday to follow-up on this."

She said she can't do this, which of course I asked her why not. She had no answer... So I gave her a small lecture on taking responsibility for her job, and ownership in problems, and that if a supervisor cannot follow through with a return call an upset client, come renewal time, I will remember it. I guess this put a little fire under her and she promised to check-up on the issue and call me on Monday when she gets into work.

As of right now, this has been a nightmare... and there is no end in sight. Hopefully AHS gets the Diag sheet and calls me back like promised. I'm not hopeful... if they call back like they said they would I will still be open to renewing the policy with them once it expires (as we have done the same on the insurance on the last house we owned)... But if AHS treats its customers like this, I might look for another one.

AHS was recommended to me by a friend who has had all positive experiences, but unfortunately, my very first experience was horrible. We just bought a new home and I wanted to use my warranty to have re-key the locks since dozens of contractors were working in the home prior to purchase. I called, and the person who helped me was very nice, and she scheduled the locksmith for me, and said I'd hear from them within 24 hours. I called the locksmith directly after not hearing from them after 26 hours, and the person was very rude, and dismissive and told me that they still had time to get back to me so I needed to wait.

So, I waited for a total of 45 hours, and when I called AHS, I was told that they have 48 hours to get back to me. I reminded her that at this point, 48 hours would be about 1AM on a Saturday, to which she responded "48 business hours," implying that Saturday didn't count. At that point, I just asked her to cancel the claim and I'd pay out of pocket to have it done myself, which I did. What a great way to start off with your first attempt to submit a claim. I definitely won't be renewing!

It was only supposed to take seven days to get the part. By the time that I decided to replace the whole unit, they still hadn’t had the part which was two weeks out. Those were the hottest and most humid days of the summer and I got the feeling that Temprite didn’t care. It got to the point where I found my own company to give me a quote and get the job done as the heat was unbearable. I decided to cut my losses and got the reimbursement from American Home Shield. Then I canceled my contract since I’m not looking into them anymore in the future.

For the most part, the AHS reps were good. However, I had a terrible experience talking to them. They didn’t know what was going on at all. They said it was the drain pump that was bad then I have not heard again from the contractor. I’ve been calling American Home Shield and they’ve been trying to get the contractor to call me back. It was a good thing the contractor mentioned to me that there was something that was on the recoil on the washer.

That prompted me to call the manufacturer and the manufacturer fixed the washer, which seems to work fine now. I just needed to get back to American Home Shield to have my service fee refunded. The experience wasn’t entirely pleasant and it’s not American Home Shield’s fault. It's just the contractor that they’ve used. It shouldn’t take three weeks to go get a part. I've been with AHS for almost 12 years now and I’ve had situations where they've used other contractors that seemed a little bit more with it. They may need to find ways to qualify their contractor that they use unless their business process is not fixed now. Nevertheless, I'd recommend American Home Shield and I’m happy with them.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online when my air conditioner motor gave out. I always like talking to a real person, but, for that, since it was the dead of summer, I was very impressed with how quickly the people that they gave me responded back to me. However, I only had a problem because I wound up thinking somebody had fixed it but they had not. They did not come out because I canceled them before they would come out. One of my kids who knew something about it had come in and he told me what I just needed to do. I thought it was just the breaker switch, but it turned out that it was because the motor’s within burned out and so it kept going off.

When I called AHS back, I wanted the same people that they had originally given me because they had called up right away, were very friendly, and were going to come out. I thought I had gotten them, but I didn’t think the girl understood me and ended up sending someone else who turned out to be just as good. The only thing was, it took the tech two weeks to get the parts fixed because it was a very old unit. The initial response was excellent, but the follow up was not as good. The company was fine, but it was an awfully long time to wait for two weeks in the summer for a part to come.

We wound up having to buy two small window units for our bedrooms. We’ve been fine sleeping at night. We haven’t been around during the day but nobody feels it’s working. I was told I was going to have to pay $450 for the freon but they never charged me for it. I would’ve been happy. The motor thing is working but the air is not cool. I've had AHS for 15 years and some visits are more frustrating than the others but within the past four or five problems that I’ve had, they’ve responded very well. So, overall, of the insurances I’ve used, house-wise, this is fine.

I have a septic that backed up and it was so easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. My interaction with their reps was great and they were so nice. They told me right away who was gonna be coming and they gave me the phone number if I wanted to contact that company to see when for sure they were gonna come out. I called the company and their rep said that they would be out the next morning. They came right out and they were very nice. They told me what they were doing and when it was all done, they said that it wasn't the septic but sludge in the pipes. They snaked it, flushed it out, and it has been working ever since.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fantastic and I’ve been recommending them to everybody. In fact, one of the persons I told about AHS already had to use them with a new air conditioner and he said they saved him about $8,000. But I wish I had known about their referral program before I told them about AHS.

We used to go to our homeowner’s insurance or call independent people in our neighborhood to come and look at a situation and tell us what was wrong, but AHS has been a blessing for us because we have people come and tell us what we need. I've used them more than several times and I've always had a good experience with the people they sent and I’ve always been happy when I speak to their representatives.

When we had a leak coming from the upstairs restroom down through our pocket door in the downstairs bedroom, we called American Home Shield to get somebody to come out and look to see exactly where the leak was coming from and if it needed to be repaired. We are in an older house so, there have been delays because of work that we had to have done. It ended up that there was no leak found and our tub overflowed through the overflow thing. I would imagine my granddaughter overran the tub and didn't tell us that she had overrun it.

The technician that they sent out was very nice and smart. He was very polite, courteous and one of the best we've had since we've been in the area. They are the best people to come out and service us the plumbing. However, I still have a problem with the fact that the hole is still there. When the gentleman left, he said he was going to put in a work order to get somebody come up and rough it back out. He offered to set it back up there for me but I asked him not to set it back and he probably taped it up and then we had another leak from that same area before somebody got out here. The spot is still there and the piece of the ceiling that the technician sawed is still sitting there.

However, nobody came. I called AHS back twice and their people said that they needed to get the dimensions of the opening from the technician that came out. When they called the office a couple of times, either the office was closed or the gentleman that has the information was on a call. I’m gonna call AHS back today to see what the disposition of this would be, whether or not they were able to get the dimensions from him and when we would get somebody out to fill in the rough. It was surprising to me because generally when they say we are gonna hear from someone within 24 hours, we hear from someone. Other than that, I've been very pleased with the service we have received from American Home Shield.

The AC was making a funny sound and I filed an online claim for it with American Home Shield, who immediately set up an appointment. The tech from Crystal Air came out, assessed the problem and fixed the first thing with a part he had in his truck. I also told him about another issue and he told me to call him if it gets any worse and they will order the other part. He has ordered the part and we're just waiting for the part to come in for him to come back and put the new part in. I’m really happy with Crystal Air. The tech was very professional and outstanding and he took care of the problem.

Meanwhile, I have a pending claim with American Home Shield on a washer that went out on me where I had to buy a new one and I was not happy with the experience I had with the particular appliance people who were working on it. They came out and said that it needed part A. They put part A in but it didn’t work, and they did this without doing any assessment at all. They guessed that it needed part B and at that point, I went online and found that part B no longer existed. As a result, I bought a new washer. American Home Shield contacted me about a week ago and said they were gonna cash me out on my old washer, so I’m just waiting for the money to come through.

I decided to buy the policy on the recommendation of one of my husband's co-workers who had purchased it and used it several times. I had been thinking about it because we have an older home and some very old systems then we had to replace the stove on a moment's notice. So I thought we oughta do it. I asked my husband's co-worker if American Home Shield had really great service and if it was not a hassle. He said no and that it had been perfect. And I would agree. I submitted a claim online when our whole-house air conditioning unit had a breakdown. The site was easy to use and I heard back almost immediately. I got the confirmation email from American Home Shield then I heard from the contractor right away.

Unfortunately, it was a Thursday then and the contractor wasn't gonna be able to get anybody out until Monday. And having a broken AC in North Carolina in July was not comfortable. At first, I was a little concerned. I had already paid the fee and if I called my regular folks, then I was gonna end up paying twice. But when I went back and asked American Home Shield about it, they accommodated everything. I didn't even have to call them. I did a chat online and I said that it was great that the contractor got back to me so quickly but then I asked if there was a minimum standard for how soon they would get somebody out to a customer's house, not just how soon they responded. I told the rep the situation and she said, "Let me see what I can do." She came back and told me that she had sent another service provider in our area and that they could be off tomorrow. They were so gracious about switching that up and that was really nice. It was fantastic.

I ended up reaching out because I hadn't heard about scheduling. I needed to know when somebody was gonna be here for someone to be at the house. When the guy came out and looked at it, he said that he knew exactly what the issue was and that he had brought a part on the truck. 10 minutes later, he was gone and the AC was fixed. It was amazing. I was super happy.

Yet when the techs came out, they were quick and friendly. They found the issue within 20 minutes and had me back up and running. I even tried to pay them and they told me that’s not the way it works. It was an excellent experience and I find having the AHS warranty to be valuable. The people at American Home Shield are courteous and they're prompt in what they do. I'm also able to handle everything electronically. We rarely have to actually call them. My concerns with American Home Shield is that sometimes, they would recommend someone who won't come out as far as where we live. We live in a gray area, in the exurbs outside of Columbia and in between cities. I would get an email that says the vendor is going to come but the vendor is thinking that they're not gonna come. So a day will pass and I would contact the vendor then the vendor would tell me they don’t come out that far. Then another day or so would pass before I can get American Home Shield back in the game.

If I had my way, before they would send an email and tell me who's coming, they should screen that individual to see if they are actually going to come. American Home Shield doesn't have to vet the entire database but maybe they could flag my account and make sure vendors come out that far. Aside from my primary residence, I've also used American Home Shield on my rental properties and I've never had problems on those because they're all in town. It's only because of where we live that we even have the other minor inconvenience.

The outcome of our last call was satisfactory though. Rapp’s Heating and Air Conditioning has been out to the house on more than one occasion to do work for us. This time, it was a false alarm but they came prepared to do what they needed to do. The equipment was working as designed and they really didn’t have to do anything this last time other than educate me.

I called them back after I was positive that the filter was the problem and that the units have been kept clean. They replaced a motor and cleaned the compressor out really good and all seems to be well. Now the renters stopped complaining about it. I submitted the claim first and then waited. It would’ve been out of pocket if I did it the other way. Only $10 worth of Freon was covered and say, I need to replace my unit and it takes 10 pounds of Freon to replace the unit, that’s between $600 and a $1,000 that I had to pay on top of the deductible.

I've been with AHS for six years and I almost dropped them about a few years ago because their customer service was awful. When I bought my old house in Chicago in ’95, we had an American Home Shield warranty and we hated it. Every contractor we called was incompetent and we had three or four calls in the course of the year. We did not renew it and I had nothing nice to say about American Home Shield for 20 years. So, when it was proposed when we bought this house that we take one of these warranties, I said to our Realtor, “I don't know that this is gonna be any good.” And she said to not worry because Long Realty has a very good relationship here in Tucson with American Home Shield and that if AHS doesn’t take good care of us, she can make a phone call to help. So far, I haven't needed to call in the marines and the service has been fine.

We've had Bluepoint Pool Service came twice. One time was when a part broke in the pool system. There were some gears that they replaced and everything worked fine. The second time they came out was a month ago when we noticed that the level of the pool was three or four inches below normal. My first fear was that the pool sprang a leak and that it was gonna cost us a fortune. The guy came out and he was there for five minutes. He said to my wife that our pool cleaning guy flipped the lever in order to facilitate the cleaning and forgot to put it back when he was done. The tech flipped the lever and did not charge us. And that fixed the problem.

Then, our refrigerator has an icemaker that stopped working more than a month ago. We thought the line had frozen which is a common problem for this particular model. We did all the things online like turn things on and off, push reset buttons, and defrost the water filter which freezes over. We were able to get drinking water but we were unable to get the icemaker to work again. So, we placed the call to AHS and a guy came out. He said we needed new parts and that he would order it.

Then, I got an email that they got the part and told me to call for an appointment. My wife did and they came out at 9 o’clock the following morning. The guy said he needed to cut off the water to the refrigerator but he couldn't find how to do that. So, we texted our seller who told us it's behind the refrigerator. The tech said he couldn't move the refrigerator himself and that I would have to call back to American Home Shield and ask for another appointment. My wife texted our seller about that and he said the fridge is not hard to move and gave us the name of somebody else. The icemaker still doesn't work and we want it fixed. So, we either get the tech to bring one of his compatriots along, if he only need two people to move the fridge, or get somebody else out.

My oven exhaust fan stopped working so I called AHS. They contacted one of their contractors who then contacted me and it was done the same day. The contractor was fantastic. He came in and when I pressed the button, he said he knew what the issue was. He taught me and described what was going on with the exhaust fan. He brought his tools and he was able to fix it in 10 minutes. I wish all repairs were that fast. The exhaust fan has been working perfectly since then.

It was 97 degrees in Houston and my AC went out. I filed a claim with an AHS rep and Royal Air came out. It was the second time I’ve had them come fix it and all they wanted to do was patch it. The work was fine, but they were trying to patch a system that was 25 years old, out of code, and out of compliance. They patched it last time and it didn’t last three months. They kept saying American Home Shield wasn’t gonna pay for anything more than a patch. At some point, I thought American Home Shield should step in and do something else but they didn’t. But Royal Air's reps were fine. They were the ones that said I needed a new system, which I agreed, and they put a brand new unit in.

American Home Shield was fine as far as who I talked to and how they schedule service. But I'm not happy with the whole program itself. It's not set up to really provide any benefit. I can’t say that I would recommend anybody to my home insurance because at the end of the day, you're paying for something they’re not gonna ever get working for you anyway.

We bought our new home, and we have been with American Home Shield for approximately three and a half months now. Our dishwasher had some problems, as well as our garbage disposal. The claim submission over the phone was really easy, prompt, and professional. There was, however, a miscommunication with the first contractor. I was under the impression that the contractor that showed up was going to take care of both of the problems, so it required a second visit from another individual, and I had to pay another $75 co-pay. Nevertheless, they were both professional, too. The units work fine now. AHS is an excellent company, and I'm glad that we are working with them. I would recommend them.

I would set the thermostat low and it wouldn’t go down, so I was having issues with keeping our house cool. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield online and navigating their website was very straightforward. The process was very streamlined and I got a call that afternoon after I put in the request and then the contractor came that week.

The contractor was very nice and he explained to me why I was experiencing the problem. He was willing to work around my schedule and he was there for just about 20 minutes. It was a very fast appointment which was surprising. I’m a first-time homeowner and so when things like the air conditioner not working in the middle of summer happen, I start to get a little concerned and being able to use American Home Shield was super easy as I don’t have any contacts on who to call for that kind of service. A couple of years ago, my microwave and refrigerator were on the blink so I called American Home Shield and they sent a subcontractor. The man had me so mad and so upset and it took me a year and a half or so to get past that. By that time, the refrigerator wasn't keeping anything cold and the microwave didn't work at all. I called American Home Shield again and I told them not to send those same people here. They sent a different subcontractor and I told him about the experience. When he looked at what was going on, the circuit board was out on the microwave and the door was not correct on it. Then the compressor of the refrigerator was also out. He ordered the parts and replaced the compressor on the 21-year old refrigerator as well as the circuit board and the door on the microwave.

At the original time, the dishwasher was also acting funny and I had those awful people look at the dishwasher and they told me that it was the pump and they would have to order one. If they ordered the pump, they never brought it back. I threw out that dishwasher and bought a new one myself. You have to be very firm with American Home Shield. You have to let them know what you put up with and what you won't put up with.

American Home Shield does everything they can to make it difficult for you to get service, get parts, replacements, etc. They leave you on hold (their website doesn't permit service for many questions), you have to chase after them to get every step of a repair/replacement process done, and the customer service agents are simply powerless to resolve any problem. In short, what they promise on a website is, in practice, severely hindered by their institutional resistance to do anything other than bill your credit card each month. It's like dealing with the DMV. Good luck.

If zero stars was an option, that is what I would pick. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company. We have wasted money with them for years, and we are currently in a battle with them over our refrigerator that we have never had serviced for 20 years. The company they sent out claims that some wires in the freezer had been cut by the previous repair. Funny thing is we have never had any repairs done to it, which was bought new at Sears in 1998. Here in lies the problem. They use the shadiest service companies. No telling who we have let into our house, what their background is.

So we tell them we think that the company they sent actually cut the wires in question when we were not in the room, and then they are trying to work us out of more money to pay for something that wouldn't be covered. So we complain to AHS, ask for a different company to come out. However, they won't switch companies for us. We looked at reviews for the company they sent and it was nothing but negative review after negative review. This is who they do business with, frauds and crooks. Which makes AHS the same thing. AHS looks for ways to avoid handling your claim. We are definitely canceling them.

One weekend, I noticed that the temperature in the house was getting hotter and hotter, but the AC was still running. However, it was pumping out hot air. From what I understand, if there is this issue, it’s better you get to turn off the AC so it doesn’t cause any more damage to the unit, and that was when I contacted American Home Shield. I went to their website, which was perfect and very easy to read and follow, and I filed my claim. The contractor came out after a couple of days and he was very professional and nice. He explained the situation and what he believed was going on. He took extra time to make sure that my AC unit and the HVAC system were working because he said it looked like everything was fine. He also made sure that the unit was cleared of debris and everything was good to go.

He felt like there was something a little extra off, so he stayed around and tested a few more things. He told me that there were a couple of items that feed the Freon into the HVAC system and to keep an eye on that. It might over-freeze and will cause the system to shut down. Another thing he told me was to contact them if I notice the temperature changing or getting hot again and if I locked in and I was freezing over so they could come out and replace something, but it’s very hard to contact them because they’re so busy. I am keeping an eye on it though, but I’d like to contact them at some point, have them come back out, and replace that part. However, the unit has been working well since the repair. My warranty with American Home Shield is very valuable. I actually need to contact them again because there’s something wrong with our fridge’s shelf at the top.

I have two units in my house and the upstairs unit started smoking or had the smell of burning rubber when we had about 15 family members visiting. It made us all nervous. We turned the AC off and the guys came in, checked it and said that a pump or something had gone off. And then, it wasn't cooling in a span of one month. So ultimately, it had to get it replaced because it was very old. I called American Home Shield and tried to do the internet but then, I had to know my item number or my member number so I started to log it in and then I just called. Their reps were at times responsive. They gave me a name and then I didn't hear from that person for a day or two that I had to chase them down. And so, my short interactions with AHS is mostly just checking in. I paid them right away and then they seemed to be out of it and I'm just dealing with the provider.

I live in real close to Oklahoma in North Texas which was very rural. So whoever comes to serve me drives 20 miles for it. So I don't blame that on American Home Shield. The contractor has been good. They were professional and knew how to communicate with American Home Shield. Both knew they had to replace the unit up, so the contractor handled all the paperwork with American Home Shield and got it taken care of. However, I was not crazy about the high cost of $75 during the first visit. They had to put Freon which wasn't covered. I should have just paid somebody to come on my own and not have that original visit. In other words, things were not as clean and efficient as it could be.

Then when American Home Shield sent someone out, he said they're the same and everything was fine, which is a bunch of crap. AHS sent the exact, same people out, so it's some kind of a second opinion there and it has been a mess. AHS just brushes off the issue. Right now the air is working, but the furnace isn't even hooked up. I'm waiting to see what happens this next time. We came home from a vacation and our ice maker was empty. It had not been making ice for quite some time, so we called American Home Shield and they called Lake Area. This gentleman came out and he was nice but we didn't get results from him. He said that it was the sensor, so we needed to order it. That took a week to get the sensor in then he came out and put them in. But he said that the ice maker wouldn’t start up right away and that we needed to wait about 24 hours to see if it works or not. In 24 hours, nothing had happened. So we called them again and they sent him back out. This time he said we needed to replace the ice maker and that took close to another week. We were about to leave town at the time and we were worried that this wasn’t gonna be fixed. We would be gone for two weeks, so we told them that. They rushed a little bit and came out with an ice maker. Then the same guy put that in and nothing happened.

He then said that the sensors were bad. But those were the ones he put in a week earlier. He said that we’d have to order those again, so we called the company and complained that he was saying it was gonna be a while before those came in. They expedited something and said he’d go get them the next morning. When we woke up in the morning, our ice maker bucket was full. It was working but he didn’t know that. He said the sensors were bad again, so we weren’t terribly enthused by his competence. Other than that, we've been with AHS for 10 years now and we’ve been satisfied with them most of the time. Also, they were pretty quick to respond and they showed up on time. After the repair, the air conditioning has been working well.

My only complaint would be with American Home Shield in terms of their service agreement and some of the add-ons that they charge for what should be included. They started charging for freon. I get an insurance policy because when something breaks down, it needs to get fixed and then I pay extra money for this program. And now when they charge you for something like the freon, if that is what is stopping my system from working, then that should be included in the cost of what I’ve paid and I don’t want to be nickel-and-dimed beyond the premium. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has been good to work with.

We had an issue with our air conditioner. The thermostat had turned off and the unit was not working, even if we put the breakers and switches. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and then I called them the next day to confirm everything because I wanted to make sure who they were sending out. I wanted to check on the reviews because it wasn't one that I had heard of in our area. I was kind of hoping that we could request somebody that we were a little more familiar with but they have to use providers that they are contracted with. There weren’t a whole lot of options for us to be able to make any changes to that, but they told me about the reviews for that particular provider being positive in terms of their customers that have used them before.

We had to reschedule the tech coming out a couple of times because it was storming. He wouldn’t be able to go outside to see if there was a problem with the unit because he couldn’t do that in the rain with anything electrical going on. But he was able to come out and get everything done. It turned out the pan of the air conditioner was filing up with liquid. The float switch shut it down. They ran some nitrogen through the line and emptied the pan so that it wouldn’t keep filling up.

We’ve had AHS for about five years now and that was the first time I’ve had to use the service. There are certain things that maybe won’t be covered, like if there are limitations to the coverage. So depending on what the issue is, it could be that we would still have to pay out of pocket a little bit. And we can only use certain providers. Also, their online system was a little bit difficult to use and you couldn't find some of the information that you needed on their website. I’ve been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years and they’re very efficient. They have good quality contractors who get the work done. I just had somebody today for a dishwasher problem and he was good. He even did the people next door which I appreciated. One time, there was an issue with my ceiling fan and the tech arrived on time for that. He tested the battery in my remote for that and it wasn’t the remote. It was a bad switch in the wall which he replaced. He was very efficient and helpful. He has been here before and he knew that I’m a widow and he wanted to know if there was anything else he could do while he was here. American Home Shield is worth the money. I had the whole house air conditioning unit replaced and all I paid was $75. I have gotten my money’s worth every year because there have been so many things here. I always tell people about AHS.

Two rooms in my house weren’t getting any air, so I thought we'd see what American Home Shield had to say, and basically, the contractor they sent couldn’t fix it. He said it has to do with the venting, that heating could stop working and that it was not covered. But, he was very polite and pleasant, and he checked my equipment. They still have done a great job. I normally submit my claims online, and AHS has been very efficient. However, the couple of times I've needed something done, they weren't really able to solve my problems.

The air conditioner quit blowing and shut down totally so I submitted a claim online. I prefer going online because with phone calls, I keep on hold forever sometimes. For this claim, American Home Shield contacted me back the next day and then I got another message saying that the contractor had been contacted. So there was a referral to a local company. But I had a second claim which was for the water heater and that caused a bit of a hiccup. I have a tankless water heater and they didn't pick up on the tankless part. So on two different times, they sent me repair folks who did not work on tankless heaters at all. I called and told American Home Shield that they had to find somebody who actually works on a tankless heater. But that aside, both of the contractors who worked on the AC and the heater were competent. Both of the problems were fairly minor and the contractors solved them fairly quickly. The experience I had with them was positive.

I have two Home Shield contracts for two different houses and they're usually professional, but they're pretty mediocre. I have to call the plumbing people that worked in my house in Atlanta a couple of months ago. I didn't know this because I don't live there but they left a hole in the wall where they fixed the piping. AHS needs to pick better vendors. I don't think I'm gonna renew. A month ago, the fan motor on the AC went out. I turned it in on a Sunday and AMP, out of Oklahoma City, called. They said they'd be here on Wednesday so we had to spend two more nights in a hotel. My AC is a Goodman and the contractor said they don't carry motors for that brand. The fan motor is specific to the brand, so you couldn’t go to Locke Supply and put a new fan motor on. The fella figured out the trick to get the motor to spin and had gotten it started. He gave me a couple of handy tips to keep the air conditioner fan moving, so we don’t have to spend another night in the hotel. He told me that if you put a box fan on top of it, that could help keep the fan blades moving. He also showed me how to spin it with a screwdriver, so I was able to get it to spin with a screwdriver once. Then he came back on Friday and put the fan motor in there and it’s been working since then.

When I bought the house, AHS came with it. But it expired on the 11th and when I tried to renew it, it was very expensive. Relative to an air conditioner, it's not nearly as expensive. I find it unacceptable that AHS has one price on the internet and another price for the people on the telephone. Then, the salespeople were not terribly willing to honor the website price. In my opinion, that’s bait-and-switch and so they don’t get my business. But the service and the group they sent out were good.

I asked if they would call before they come out and she said they would call an hour before, so I didn't make any plans for that following Monday. What I didn't like was I got a call at about 9:15 on Monday morning and I asked when the contractor was gonna be here and the lady said in 15 minutes. Other than that, the guy that came out was really polite and did a really good job.

The pipe of the kitchen sink is the same as my washer, so I didn't ruin my dishwasher from Thursday night until after he came on Monday. When he was trying to snake my kitchen sink, he made water come up in my garage and I let him know. He was very attentive for that and he also made sure that that water quit coming up. He was here for over an hour which I was very impressed with. Everything was good ever since the repair was done.

    Original Review: Aug. 17, 2018

We put in a service request for our refrigerator. After several days, I received a voicemail telling me that because of the brand, they were unable to find a contractor that can fix it. I was told that we can find an outside contractor to repair it and get it reimbursed. There were no details given regarding who to call for any authorization process. My husband later called Customer Service and was told that we had authorization. So he found a contractor and had the work done. We submit the invoice for reimbursement and received a denial letter claiming we didn't obtain prior approval.

I made 3 different calls back to back, taking about 90 minutes to try to understand what happened. They have it documented somewhere that they called me 3 times attempting to tell me how to get this authorization but because I didn't call them back, authorization was denied. HOWEVER, I never received these phone calls as evidenced by my phone records. Now we are left paying for something that we were told would be reimbursed, and it wasn't cheap. And every time I ask someone what can be done to remedy this situation, I am told "nothing". TERRIBLE experience with AHS.

I have been with American Home Shield for 15 years with two different homes. The one time I use them is when my AC compressor unit (outside) failed and caught on fire and the duct work was falling apart. I call them and they assigned an HVAC company to evaluate the issue. This company never called, I tried calling them, left voice mail after voice mail and they never returned my call. I call AHS back and told them. Their reply was they will try to call them on a private contact number they had and to give it a couple more days.

After couple days I called them back and they said they will call a different company. This company showed up and it appears he had no idea what he was doing. He said the compressor was fine and that it needed to be recharge with Freon. Even though it had burn marks all over it. I told him it caught on fire, his reply was it will be fine. He inspected the duct work and said it was in great shape. After discussing what he found, I ask him to go with me into the attic and I will show him the issue. Once there I showed him the busted ductwork and he said that he was looking at the other ductwork in the back of the house. A different system altogether! He said he can fix that now. I went back in house and he spent a couple hours in the attic, came down and said it was fixed and left. I went up in the attic to see what he did. He used electrical tape to wrap the duct work!!!

He submit an evaluation report to AHS 3 days after he was here. I'm guess to see about replacing the AC compressor. After a week I never heard from AHS. I called them and it was still under review and to allow a couple more days. The following week I call AHS and it was still under review. I ask them what is the problem, the AC compressor unit was burned up and need to be replaced. I explained that I live in Texas and it has been 95-100 deg F here. They said the technician didn't report that the AC unit was out. He only said the duct work needed to be replaced. AHS said they would not be able to warranty the AC compressor until they get a tech out there. They assigned the same first HVAC company that I told them never called me or them so they assigned it to HVAC company that did show.

I said I didn't trust him because he used electric tape to fix the duct work that was falling apart. AHS said they only had two companies that cover our area so I could choose. My options were a HVAC company that never called or a HVAC company that had no ideal what he was doing. At this point we have been without AC for 5 weeks. I called a local HVAC company and they came out within 30 minutes, inspected the system and reported back to me what needed to be replaced or repaired. I basically told them to remove the complete system including duct work and replace with new. Talk with AHS and they would not pay any on the replacement since it wasn't a company they had contracted. I told them that I would use either of the companies they had and that they can cancel my account and to not call me in 2019 to renew.

I live in a small town in the Texas Panhandle and after discussing with my local HVAC guys about why they don't work with AHS, they said that AHS charges them a percentage of the repairs they send them. If ask if I would recommend American Home Shield, I would say no! As for the other home warranty companies, I couldn't answer this question. I never been with anyone but AHS.

On 7/11/18, I reported a few plumbing issues to AHS. On 7/16/18, a Stilwell Plumbing representative showed up and, only after I showed him all the issues that I had reported, he told me that he had only one issue on his work order (a stoppage issue), and that he could not fix it because he did not have a snake on his truck. After several calls to get the issues straighten out and a plumber back to resolve all the issues, another Stilwell Plumbing representative showed up on 7/31/18. Out of four issues reported, two were fixed, and one denied on that visit. As to the issue left, the plumber said he needed to go to the store, get the price for the part, get AHS approval, and then return to fix the problem. He never returned to repair the problem. I called AHS many times; they never knew what was going on always giving different explanations but no solutions.

Finally on 8/14/18, I asked to speak to a manager, I was on hold for 35 minutes before the call was dropped. On 8/15/18, I was on hold for 42 minutes but I did speak to Chastity an alleged supervisor of the escalation department (having worked in customer service for so many years, It is possible she is solely an agent from the escalation department). After being on hold for about an additional 20 minutes, she returned to the line explaining that there had been a miscommunication; therefore they never really knew what issue I was calling about. She also said that now that they were clear on what the issue was, they were going to send Murray's Plumbing and Heating LLC to resolve the issue. Chastity was speaking very fast; which made hard to understand anything she was saying.

When I asked her to repeat the information she was rude, and impatient. So I asked to speak to her supervisor, but Chastity said she would put a request in and that her supervisor would get in touch within the next 24-48 business hrs. Murray's Plumbing and Heating LLC called shortly after but the woman asked that explain the issue. Naturally, I was irritated by that. As I attempted to explain the reason for my irritation, she began to speak over me, refused to accept the work order and hang up. I called AHS right away, asked to talk to Chastity’s supervisor; the CSR Mykel said she had no way to transfer me to the supervisor.

On 08/17/18, Tony from C Mayes Plumbing & Heating LLC came by and inspected the issue. Then he explained that the part which needs replacing had been discontinued, and that it would take him about two days to find the part on eBay, if he can find it at all. According to him, AHS will only authorize an upgrade if an original part cannot be located. We will see how long it will take to complete the work order opened on July 11, 2018.

I've been having problems with my air conditioning unit at my house in Clearwater, Florida and at the house in Tallahassee all summer so I've called American Home Shield about six times since April. It has been inconvenient for me and my baby to have to go without AC. I tried to submit a claim online but for some reason, my email and my password never worked and AHS's website gave me a message that says there was something wrong with their system. So, I always end up calling them to file a claim. Still, AHS got somebody out here as soon as they can.

We dealt with Air Doctor for our Clearwater property and the contractors have always been nice and very professional. They call either my husband or myself to let me know that they are on their way. I appreciate it and it’s always nice not to be in the middle of bath time for my infant when somebody shows up. The first time we called somebody out, all the contractors did was put more coolant in the system. A few weeks later, we had the same issue where the coil was freezing over so then we called them back up and said that we were still having the problem. The contractor said it was a leak which was funny because they were here a few weeks ago saying it wasn’t one.

Thereafter, the technician explained to me that they shoot a kind of pasty thing in the line that was supposed to cover the hole and that way the leak was fixed. It worked for a month and then we had the same issue again. We had to call Air Doctor back to come out and see what the deal was. The last time, the contractor found where the leak in the line was and he cut out that piece of tubing and he soldered the rest back together. The air conditioner has been working fine since then. So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been great and having their warranty has been easy and convenient for us. Air Doctor has been great as well but I just wish that the problem had been solved first instead of trying a little patch here and there.

When we bought our home, we had a year warranty and the warranty company was horrible. We ran into somebody our age who had AHS and talked about their experience so I looked into it. The AHS woman who stayed on the phone with me for over an hour was pleasant, information-loaded, really made the experience so much easier. There are things they don’t cover but the plan that we got was a broad-spectrum and we liked it so well. We bought it for our second home, which is a much newer home. So, what we are spending per month for two houses is less than what we spent for one house with the other company.

When my dishwasher wasn’t cleaning properly and my refrigerator was leaking and frosting up, I filed a claim to AHS over the phone which was extremely easy. However, they get out-of-country service people who aren’t as familiar with product and there was a language issue. She was having difficulty understanding what I was trying to explain about the dishwasher. So, I just waited till Monday and talked to AHS and we were able to pick the service person we wanted. The contractor that came out, Noe, was excellent. In fact, he had been there for our range too. He literally resurrected it and then he did our dishwasher and the refrigerator. He’s one of the most knowledgeable appliance repair person we’ve ever had. He would explain what he was doing and he wasn’t annoyed by the fact I was standing in the room and asking him questions, and he'd readily engage in the conversation.

We’ve had a lot of contractors over the years. A lot of people are only trained on a range or dishwasher or refrigerator. But he immediately diagnosed the problem and was able to give me information on all the appliances way and above what we would’ve expected. And they are older appliances. We’ve had other repair people come out and they don’t know old technology. He’s been in the business for a while and he’s hands-on smarts when it comes to looking at an appliance, and he knows how to diagnose. He was excellent. He was able to fix my appliances in one visit but because they’re older, parts aren’t as readily available. So, they had to come back to reinstall. So far, everything is working good since the repair. American Home Shield is excellent

I had a good experience the first go-round when my pool pump went out but I’m now in the middle of another claim that seems to be dragging on.

The chlorinator on the pool has a strong leak and there are two components to that. There’s an electrical component where the screen is messed up and the display is not correct. Then the filter element of it is leaking. I reported that and American Home Shield contacted Aztec. I stayed in touch with the gentleman at Aztec and I spoke with him last week and he told me that the supplier in Lakeland, Florida didn’t have the parts that I need. So American Home Shield told the contractor to see if he could find the parts at another supplier.

The contractor found the parts and sent AHS all the information, then AHS attempted to purchase them but they couldn’t or decided not to. AHS then contacted Aztec and told them to buy the parts. At that point, I was talking to John from Aztec and he told me that he was not going to buy the parts. He said that American Home Shield lags behind in paying just for labor stuff. He told me that he was not gonna fork out about $300 for parts and let that money stay in limbo. I understood that.

So I called AHS as soon as I got home Thursday of last week and I was on the phone for about an hour and a half. AHS ended up sending me to the right department. The guy put me on hold and he called the contractor to see if they could work something out. He came back on the phone and told me that he had a plan worked out with the contractor. So I hung up with him and called Aztec immediately. I told John that AHS told me that they got everything worked out.

He said that AHS had decided to send him back to their original supplier and that AHS would put a brand new system on my pool. That was where it was Thursday and I’ve been texting with Aztec back and forth. I texted them again this afternoon and things still haven’t worked out. John said he was communicating with American Home Shield and he told me that AHS couldn’t seem to get their act together about what we need. This thing has lingered on now for several weeks, but Aztec came out and replaced the pump on my previous claim and they were very helpful. John kept me in the loop about what was going on. If this happened when our pump was down, I’d be furious because I’d be afraid I was gonna lose the pool. But it’s still providing what it needs in this diminished capacity because it’s just leaking.

He then submitted the claim to American Home Shield for them to approve it. They approved it, but it took three and a half weeks to actually replace it and then for the guy to come out. I had to get on his schedule too because I know that they take care of people other than American Home Shield. Everything seems to be okay since the replacement.

I sent a claim to AHS when the heating element of our oven went out. Sears put a new heating element on it and got it fixed. At the same time, I had a burner that goes to wide open on my stove. Sears ordered the part, but it took GE eight weeks to get the part to me. However, Jarvis, the rep who came out, was professional. The temp control, which was bad to start with, had gone out. I just washed the automatic oven cleaner and now the oven works better than it ever has. Having the warranty is worth the time and it saves you extra money. If I had to replace the stove, it was gonna cost me about $800. But AHS fixed it and the cost was $325 for the parts and labor.

My sister recommended American Home Shield to me and during my first claim, they sent out Action Plumbing. Action Plumbing then installed the water heater, but I was disappointed with the fact that I had to pay an extra $345 for them to put a connection to it. A friend of mine, who is a plumber, also told me that that was an unfair charge at that amount. I told American Home Shield that when I paid $100 deductible, I didn't know that I had to pay more money out of my pocket. They told me that they had nothing to do with whatever extra money Action Plumbing charged.

So, the money Action Plumbing was charging has nothing to do with what their contract had in regards to our contract. It was like Action Plumbing was saying one thing and American Home Shield was saying another. So, it’s a little bit frustrating. Also, I'm yet to receive our contract. I’ve already called a hundred times and asked American Home Shield to send that to me but they still haven't sent it.

My AC wasn’t cooling so I called in to submit a claim to American Home Shield. Their reps were very good but the contractors were very dishonest people. They came outside and my wife called me to tell me that we have a problem with Freon. They said there was a leak which they had to take care of and fill up the Freon. The Freon in it was covered under my plan and that wasn’t explained to my wife and she did not authorize anything. They started filling up five pounds of Freon and they charged me $145 per pound.

Also, I’m not so sure if the leak was fixed. My friend who’s at the AC company said if they do an MRI or a CT scan, they're supposed to inject some kind of liquid to find out where the leak is. Then, once they find the leak, they fill up the Freon. They were there for 35 minutes where they found the leak, fixed the leak, and filled up the Freon which is impossible. I called AHS and shared my frustration and told them I was very upset. But they said there was nothing they could do and that they weren’t gonna charge for the deductibles. They did not do a good job solving my issue. When it’s time to renew, I will not stay with AHS.

I had American Home Shield for three years. One time, I had a simple ice-maker problem and a dishwasher problem and they took care of those. That part was great as long as they didn't have to spend any money on me. Then, I needed a new hot water heater so they sent a guy out here and we had looked at it ourselves. I don’t know if the guy didn't want to do the job, but the way it sounded when I talked to American Home Shield, that it wasn't gonna be covered because I had messed with it. But the thing didn't work and I was only trying to take out the bottom heater. It was frozen into where I couldn't unscrew to get it out. But anyway, I ended up paying $200 for a new hot water heater myself.

I called American Home Shield regarding my air-condition. I told them I really needed to get it expedited ‘cause there was a lady living in the house that has breathing problems. But it was still a good four days before they got somebody here because it was August when everybody's got problems. The guy told me how the outside unit was falling apart. I said that he had to tell American Home Shield. He said he called them but the only thing they do is fix. I asked if he could get it working and he said yes. So he replaced the motor and put in one that was a universal type.

It worked for about two days, and then it was gone again. So I called them back and told them that a guy who was here 2 years ago said that the air conditioner's 20 years old and that the heating that came with it when they built the house needed replacing. It was another four days before they could find somebody. I told they guy what had been done before by another company. He got to look in and said, "Man, this thing is falling apart."

Anyway, I'd already made up my mind that I needed a new air-condition heating system for this whole house. So I told this big air-condition company that I was buying one no matter what. They said that they have people at the office whose work was with home warranties and that they'd see what they could get me. But I didn't hear anything from American Home Shield. They didn't get me anything so I'm paying $9,800 for a new air-conditioner inside/out myself for five years with no interest. And I'm financing it through other people.

I cancelled with AHS on the day it was supposed to be renewed for another month. I checked my bank account every morning to see what was cleared and what hasn't and I saw that American Home Shield taken $5 out of my account. I called them and said that I had cancelled it the day before. They said that I still owed $75 for cancel. I said, "Well, take that payment and make that my last payment in, whatever I owe you."

I called them back a couple of days later and got a different number. They were supposed to leave final checkers to find out what actually happened. After talking to this lady for about 20 minutes with her checking this and that, she asked me for my phone number in case we get disconnected. So I gave her the phone number and sure enough, after 15-20 minutes and after I told her what was going, we got cut off and she never called back. Then all the other callbacks were for the same problem. Overall, as far as fixing the part and getting something working again, American Home Shiled might be all right when they can get somebody out here, but as far replacing anything or do anything costly, forget it. They won’t do nothing that really counts.

I liked the internet ratings for AHS so I signed up with them. I've been with them for somewhere around two years now and recently, they sent Aqua Bright out and they were great. They were out here a couple of times and they were super-efficient. They started with one thing to see if that worked and if it didn't, they'd fix it again.

One time, there was a situation with an air conditioner and the AC went out Friday night. I called AHS that night and the guy came out the next day, which was great. He said that the problem was the compressor and that he couldn't order it till Monday then AHS had to okay it. On Tuesday, they were gonna ship it from their warehouse. It only comes from the warehouse and they didn’t ship it overnight. So it was 86 degrees in the house for over a week and that was kind of painful. It was what it was, but when your AC goes down when it’s really hot out, there needs to be a faster way of getting things done.

I was also frustrated when I had to wait for a week and the AC went out again because of something else. I had to wait several more days and in the meantime, I had people in the house who were getting cooked. One of them was severely disabled and it was a very uncomfortable situation for everybody. Other than that, American Home Shield's reps who answer the phone when you call in and the people who come out have been good.

I'm gonna sell the property and I'm thinking about transferring my AHS coverage to the new owner because it’s a good thing to do, give them a year of it. I would tell them that it's a very inexpensive insurance policy that can save them lots of money. I would also tell them that 10 years ago, I had a home on Bainbridge Island in Washington that I sold and in between the time that the contract was accepted and the closing, my water heater blew up. And because I had AHS, it cost me $145 to replace my water heater instead of the $1,500 that I would have had to do, and then they also paid for the clean-up. Also, about three years ago, we had to replace a dryer and they offered one that I thought was fine, but my wife said she'd like something with more features. So, they gave us a check for the amount that they’d promised us and we spent another $150, but that was fine. AHS is great overall and I've always had good experience with them.

I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. We had a thermostat that malfunctioned and gave us an error code. I talked to the Honeywell people of the thermostat and they said I should get in touch with air conditioning folks because I have some communication issues with the thermostat and the AC unit. I called Home Shield and they had a contractor come and take a look at that. They said that a part of the AC unit had to be changed out. Then they went out through the AC unit upstairs and then they went through a big spiel that it all has to be in code compliance since the unit was not installed in code compliance.

What I did not like was that they started to put pressure on me to install a complete unit. They said that they had a good sale, that I really should get a whole big new unit and that they can do that quite rapidly. I told them I didn't want a new unit and that I just wanted them to repair whatever it was. So I got a little concerned to the point where I started not to trust them a little bit because they were forcing the issue. Eventually, my wife got on the phone with them and they started talking. But they didn’t agree eye to eye and they both hung up.

Then we went to Home Shield and told them what was going on. But they said there was nothing they could do about it. I told them to give me another contractor but they said that if they did, they would charge me for a second opinion. Then if the second opinion would come up to the same conclusion, Home Shield would give us the first contractor. I didn’t like that at all. It was like Home Shield didn’t care. They did not wanna support us at all. My wife and I evaluated it. Then we talked to Home Shield and they started to discuss that we did need to have our unit up to code if it was not. Then they started explaining that this contractor has been around for 30 years and that they were reliable. At the end of the day, we went ahead with the first contractor.

They were also charging me $1,600 and they wanted the whole funding upfront. I asked them why and they said that was what they did. That was the other thing I didn’t like. They had not even come and installed it. I asked them what if the unit didn't work when they left. They said they would guarantee to work on it but that they would need to have a check or a credit card. I told them I would pay when the guy would come but they said the guy wouldn't be equipped to get any money. So something was definitely wrong. I explained all that to Home Shield and they convinced us that everything was okay and that was what the contractor normally did. So then I said, “Okay. Let's get this first started because I needed the air conditioning, okay?”

When they came, they did not talk about any other new units though. They did not talk about any funding at all either. They just came in. They were professional and they did a good job. Then they left without even asking for any money. I'm still skeptical about this code compliance and this additional $1,000 I had to pay to put one thermostat, one level sensor and a couple of valves. To me, it was a big rip-off. It was the worst experience.

My property management team was told by AHS that it would be at least two weeks before they could get a technician out to the property. A two week timeline was completely unacceptable for July in Georgia, so my property management team asked AHS for authorization to utilize a local vendor, which AHS approved. My property management team established contact with the local vendor and made all the arrangements for service, AHS did absolutely nothing. The local vendor completed the service and fixed the issue on the unit.

A few weeks later, AHS refused to cover the service, claiming that it was not covered under warranty. They also charged me a $100 service fee after they were unable to provide service. I was billed directly by the vendor, to include a service call fee which I paid. I contacted AHS and so far have been told that I was charged $100 because a claim was initiated even though AHS did not provide any actual service. When I asked the rep if they would be willing to pay me $100 to do nothing they promptly told me "absolutely not". They then informed me that they were not authorized to provide a refund and when I asked to speak to a manager, they conveniently disconnected the call.

Our hot water heater went out and we immediately contacted AHS. They sent a service technician out who told us we needed a new water heater. He then told us it would most likely take them 10 days to replace as they are backed up right now. We have called AHS customer service and they have been less than helpful and I would characterize their attitude as rehearsed and apathetic. They continually apologize for the delay and see this as an inconvenience. We are looking for resolutions - not apologies.

I have read the contract and it states that the service will be initiated within 48 hours. In bringing that up to the service rep, they stated since the technician came out and diagnosed the problem, it was initiated. I let the service rep know the whole premise of our relationship was for them to replace or repair. We are paying them to not only diagnose but more importantly fix the issue. The contract officially reads "The services will be initiated under normal circumstances within 48 hours after your service request is made to AHS." It says nothing about diagnosing the issue. The operative word is service. The service we are requesting is repair or replace. I am completely dissatisfied with the time to repair, hidden replacement fees and lack of professionalism by customer service.

After repeatedly s aying they couldn’t help me, and after going public with the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, AHS contacted me and offered to reinstate, with fees needing to be paid to them retroactive to May. I told them I appreciated that, and that I wanted coverage from them again. but I’d prefer to start anew from that day, and that I’d pay for the washer repair out of my own pocket with a local LG-certified technician of my choice who’d already been scheduled. That’s what I and they did. I saved almost $200 in retroactive fees and got my machine up and running for only $80 (I got real lucky on that!) I do believe that pressure from public forums such as this one led AHS to finally come to their senses and do the right thing. I do, however, have to give AHS credit for finally doing the right thing, albeit, the hard way.

    Original Review: Aug. 16, 2018

After 14 continuous years of coverage and 14 years of NOT ultra-high usage, American Home Shield retaliated against me for invoking a clause in their contract, by refusing to renew my coverage, and then, not notifying me of said non-renewal. In January, 2017, my dishwasher needed service, so I went online, ordered service and paid the $75 fee in-advance online. The contractor who was assigned was from a town 40 miles away from me and he wasn't able to come to my house until the following week.

Just a few days after I placed that order (but prior to the contractor's visit), my oven started acting funny, so, I went online again, ordered service for the oven and paid AHS another $75 fee. AHS just happened to assign the same contractor to me for my oven repair as they did for the dishwasher repair. While the contractor was working on my dishwasher, I turned the oven on to see if it would work.

After the contractor was finished fixing the dishwasher, I asked the technician if he also worked on ovens. He said he did. I then showed him a print-out of the second work order, showing him that his company was also set-up for the oven repair too. I asked him if he wished to save a second 40-mile one-way trip and take a look at the oven while he was already in my kitchen. He said yes. At that point I discovered that the oven was working fine, so I told him to forget about it. He did.

I then contacted AHS to request a refund of the $75 I paid for the oven repair service call which never really happened. They refused. I tried to explain in further detail. They still refused. I then escalated from making "a request" to making "a demand" for a refund. They still refused. I then wrote a letter to them and in the letter I invoked a clause in their contract, which says that disputes have to go to arbitration, and, that if I wanted to go to Small Claims Court instead, I would need their consent to do that. I formally asked for them to either allow me to sue them in Small Claims Court for the $75 or to proceed to arbitration. I felt very strongly that they were not entitled to any money for the oven repair. After receiving my letter, invoking my rights under their contract, they eventually refunded me the unearned $75.

In August, 2018, my washing machine needed repair. I then came to discover that my AHS contract was non-renewed in May 2018. They allege that they sent me a letter in August, 2017, notifying me of their decision not to renew in May, 2018. I have no record of ever receiving any such letter. The premium payments were debited from my checking account every month for the past 14 years. I did not realize in my bank statements for May, June & July, that such debits were missing. I had no knowledge of anything.

Digging deeper, I was informed that their decision last year not to renew me this year was made by the AHS legal department, as response/retaliation for my "threatening" letter to them, which merely invoked my rights to either arbitration or court or my $75 back per the clause in their own contract. American Home Shield discarded a 14-year loyal customer who stood firm against them for his right not to be ripped-off by them. I'm not sure if I should be unhappy that my home is now without coverage, or if I should be happy that I am no longer in a business relationship with a disreputable company who would do something this like American Home Shield. Online truth-telling is my only avenue for my retaliation, so here it is.

I would give zero stars if I could as I am 4 days out from the first request for service and still have had no one out to look at my issue. I completed a request for service on Monday, for a leak in my toilet (per the maintenance people in my condo building based upon a complaint of a leak at the business below), it is now Thursday and I still have the problem. AHS did refer this to one contractor, but they had the incorrect problem (blockage of toilet, not leak - I never noted a blockage). That first contractor did call back, but upon discovering the problem was a leak not a blockage they stated they needed to get confirmation from AHS for this different problem, but neither they nor AHS ever followed up. I completed another service request online for the same problem (the first report was made on the phone via an automated system).

The service was given to another contractor, upon calling them to set an appointment came to discover they do not service the area I live in. I called AHS back and relayed this information, was told another contractor would be assigned, but is it unclear if this actually happened until I followed up on the next day. There was a referral to a third plumbing service contractor, upon calling this service contractor (where I had to leave a message) - I received a 'courtesy call' from the plumber stating he refuses any contracts from AHS due to the frustration of getting approvals for repairs. I call back AHS to state that the service contractor is refusing the work due to AHS.

The procedure is for AHS to confirm with the contractor that they are refusing the service, in this case, when they are calling the plumber they are getting an answering service requiring the plumber to call them back to verify the refusal - he will likely not be returning the call (he has no reason to and he refused when I asked him to call AHS). According to the procedure (so I was told) AHS has is to wait 30 minutes and then an email is sent to Contractor Relations - and it is up to Contract Relations to get a hold of the contractor and verify the refusal and why - again, the plumber is likely to not return their call either, meanwhile I am still waiting for the repair of a leaky toilet 96 hours after making the first call. AHS needs a procedure for service contractors who do not respond and a procedure for follow up with customers.

I currently have water leaking behind a wall in the my pantry which sits under my furnace. AHS set out ATR to inspect the issue but the tech inspected my air condition unit which is outside and nowhere near the kitchen. He glanced at the furnace and did not see a visible leak and said that I probably had water condensation but no suggestion on how to fix. I called AHS to report the company and their obvious incompetence and requested a new company to come out since I still have water leaking. They want to send a supervisor from ATR out instead of a new company. I am currently still disputing with AHS about this and will have to miss another day of week for a technician to come out. You also have to hold at least 20 minutes to speak with someone each time you call. Very frustrated.

I renewed my service contract in April of 2018 and told a person to make a change in appliances that were on the renewal list. I choose to drop the clothes dryer from the list and substitute a refrigerator that had just went off its one year manufacturer's warranty. I paid extra to have an eleventh item added to the list which was a dishwasher. It is now August of 2018. My ice maker stopped putting out ice. I looked at the problem and was able to determine it was possibly a frozen line. I cleared that up by myself. I then looked at the new contract and the fridge wasn't on there. Clothes washer was removed but added as 11th item not the fridge. That's when I called about the contract. ALL ITEMS ARE WORKING FINE.

It was when I called about the contract that I encountered persons I could not understand or get to understand what I was saying (language barrier), nor would a person transfer me to a supervisor. I was put on hold a couple of times but unable to be allowed to speak to a person who may be able to understand my concern. After looking at the bottom of page 10 of the contract (LARGE print) it states "This company pays persons not employed by the company for the sale, advertising, inspection or processing of a residential service contract under Texas Occupation Code 1303.304". I will also say that "I did not" read through the 10 pages of this contract TO DISCOVER THE ERROR THAT SOME EMPLOYEE OF SOME UNNAMED COMPANY MADE ON MY ACCOUNT.

This was a verbal exchange I had with A PERSON over the phone giving my credit card number. I DID NOT sign the 10 pages of mostly small print contract, nor did I conceive a person would not understand that I was making changes just to increase paying them. I will now let others know of this whenever an opportunity like this comes up. I do live in a townhouse community. There is just no one in this company to talk to! PS: I did read that the contract automatically renews if I don't let them know at the end of the contract term on a certain date next year.

I've been using the contractor company that American Home Shield used to use years ago but they kept away. Nonetheless, another contractor came and he said that the company that did the seasonal cleaning left the fittings and screws loosed, and the AC leaked out. The repair was done and the air conditioning unit has been perfectly fine since.

American Hold Shield doesn't care, we need help badly! 3 months of A/C issues and both units broke AGAIN. Guess what? They sent our 6th request for service in 3 months BACK TO THE SAME VENDOR... Total Air Care. Why would you continue to use a vendor who continues to not fix the issue? Total Air Care knows how to steal from AHS and they are doing it well, at the cost of the consumer... Us. Mold... sickness and kids getting sick because AHS doesn't care.

Updated on 09/05/2018: We are now 3.5 months in with a 1 and a half ton A/C unit that is not fixed. American Home Shield STILL won't do their job and we have been w/o A/C for 115 days!! After 6 unsuccessful tries by one of their vendors, Total Air Care, they finally decided to go with another vendor, World Class AC, Inc. This new vendor came out on August 27th. The technician peeked his head in the attic and said, "New air ducts are needed", and proceeded to leave. He told AHS that the ducts needed to be fixed. AHS said, "Go ahead and change the ducts out". He said, "I need more room in the attic."

Here we are 10 days later and nothing has been done. I called World Class AC and asked them what they needed to be done in the attic and they stated, "to make more room." Not sure what this meant, but they ultimately said today, "We can't fix it." So here we are 115 days without AC and AHS is nowhere to be seen. After 100 days AHS had a rep by the name of Mariah ** call me and state how surprised she was, how sorry AHS was and that she would "make this a top priority to fix asap." We haven't heard back from her and this after leaving her 2 messages. Why does AHS not care?? Are they not making enough money off of us?? Why are their vendors so poor?? Why don't they follow up with their vendors to ensure work is being completed? We don't know what to do anymore and we NEED HELP ASAP.

I had an issue with my basement AC unit. I went online to submit the claim with American Home Shield and their site worked really well. They sent their contractor thereafter and they did a good job. I figured they'd be out here a long time, but they found the leak in about 10 minutes. There was a coil in the compressor that burned out, and it was leaking around the compressor. So, they had to reschedule to get a new compressor.

I figured the contractor might drop the ball getting that new compressor because they had to go through the insurance company, who then had to get back to them. Still, it all came around and they were able to complete the installation of the compressor. American Home Shield is a great company. If you got a new house or an old house, getting AHS is a good deal and it's worth investing in it, especially when you have an old house because that’s when things are gonna go wrong.

I prefer doing claims with American Home Shield online. I get a text afterwards and the response is generally quick. But I submitted a claim on a Tuesday once and the contractor couldn't be there until the next Monday. I certainly thought they could get to me Thursday or Friday but they did not. I needed it done right away though. I could not do it next Monday so I told them to forget it and canceled the service. I had to call somebody on my own and pay whatever they charged. My only suggestion for American Home Shield would be if one contractor couldn't do the job, they may have somebody else that I could call that can come out a little quicker.

But generally, my experience with American Home Shield has been very positive. When the AC wasn't cooling upstairs, General AC and Heating came out the next day. We were having 100-plus days and the technician was quick. He diagnosed the problem and although we had a few issues getting through the closet, he cleaned out around the condenser and that was it. He told me that I needed to turn the thermostat up a little bit so that the downstairs air conditioner would not be overworking itself. So instead of putting it at 60 because the temperature is not cool, I should put it at 75 and maybe the temperature would get to 75. And that has been helpful. It's still little warm but it's not like it was when I set the thermostat up a little bit.

They couldn’t duplicate the problem but they kept playing around with it. It worked when they came and it shut off. The guy said it could be either the shut-off valve or there was another valve on there. He was gonna replace the valve and let me know if there were any problems. I had to wait a week to get the part, but that was not a problem. My wife just had to make sure she watched the washing machine that it was working. It never failed after they came out but we couldn’t trust it. With the two replacement parts, we haven't had any problems since.

I had one company before AHS and they were horrible. I dropped them because I had a problem with the toilet and they couldn’t get anybody to come out. I had to call and get my own plumber and I had to pay for it. The other company reimbursed me, but they only reimbursed me a part of it. On the other hand, American Home Shield is a good company and there were no problems with them.

I talked to friends of ours and other people who bought home warranty policies through AHS and their competitors. The consensus was that American Home Shield was by far the best, so I went with them. I have them for two months now and so far, I've only had to call in a claim once. The water well went out on me and it turned out that it was a start capacitor. But I talked to the previous owner and they said that it was the original well, so I was thinking the water pump was going out.

AHS sent 77 Water Well and my experience with them was awesome. When their tech came out, he was very honest about it and said that as much as he'd like to replace the water well for me, he couldn't justify it. He said that it was still going strong and that I just had a bad capacitor. He was also very thorough and spent some time talking to me and telling me about it. I know that American Home Shield doesn’t cover replacement of the actual tank of the water well. It was apparent that that tank needed to be replaced and he told me as much. I called him back about a week later and asked him if he’d be willing to replace it and he did. And it was at a good price. I called around and checked with other people and he had the best price by far. So they were great.

I first called American Home Shield because I didn’t know what to do, but I knew that my air-conditioning unit was covered. It’s my first home, so I didn’t understand how the home warranty worked, what I’m gonna have to pay, but the guy I talked to took the time and explained everything to me that the only thing out-of-pocket for me for this situation was the $100 service call. He also said that it was easier simply by logging into my account online and then process it. I submitted the claim online and it was super simple doing it, but I cancelled the claim because my air conditioning started working, but a day later, it was broken again.

The contractor came and he was friendly. The first time he came out, he fixed one thing and said he'd see if it works, but I called him back on the 4th of July because it went out again. It’s one of those things where companies fix the cheapest thing first, thinking that one thing might fix it, and if it doesn't, they will do the next step. The guy came out again, fixed the motor and since then, I've had no problems.

We used to have American Home Shield in Louisiana when we bought a house about 15 years ago and when we bought these houses here, we signed back up with them because we have always had a good experience with them. I submitted the claims with American Home Shield online, but I had talked to someone on the phone a couple of times because one time, they had canceled a claim. They then got it all straightened out. The customer service reps did well and they resolved all the issues. The contractors were very polite and respectful. They did their job and were very quick about it. It wasn’t something that was dragged out for days and days. We had to wait for the parts to come, which was not anything at all on them. Everything was fine and we were well-pleased.

When my dishwasher had stopped washing, the tech changed out the motor that makes the things spin around so it would wash again. Also, one of the heating elements of the stove or a switch to a heating element on the top went out and the tech changed that out. They did a really good job and they fixed the problem. I was finally able to use my dishwasher again, and I can't live without a dishwasher. But, now, my dishwasher is acting up again. However, I'm expecting that it's going to end up having to be replaced. It is leaving a pasty white film on my dishes after washing. My stove started showing an error code of F11, too, a few days ago.

Nevertheless, I've recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people -- my son-in-law, my son, my daughter, to other people, and even to my brother in Arkansas. I had given him AHS' information and told him he should sign up with them to be able to protect himself because you never know what's going to happen with the appliances when you move into a place. You buy it and you don’t know what it is you're buying when it comes to appliances, and they can be costly to replace right off the bat. AHS is very easy to contact and to get set up for a technician to come out and check on whatever the issue is. The techs were always good about explaining everything and even giving tips on how to protect your appliances yourself as well and how to get the best out of them.

    Claims Handling

    Reviewed Aug. 16, 2018

American Home Shield sent out The Lindsay Company when I filed a claim for my garbage disposal and the rep was great. He gave me advice to use the garbage disposal at least twice a month so it won't rust up again. Since then, it’s been working wonderfully and I’m learning to use it.
