Our air conditioner quit blowing cold. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the person I spoke with was very polite, took down all my information quickly and also got back with me very quickly. The service technicians that they called out, AMS, called us back within a very short period of time and scheduled an appointment to come out and look at it. They were very friendly, efficient with their service, and helpful in explaining what was going wrong with the unit. They had it fixed the same day, so that was awesome. Everything was very smooth. AHS is a great service to have in getting things fixed if ever they break. Anyone who is selling a home should definitely inquire about it.

The rubber seal on the trapdoor of our refrigerator's icemaker decided to have more waves than the Atlantic Ocean in the storm. Also, our washing machine was throwing everything out of balance and bouncing all over the floor. I contacted American Home Shield to file claims for both of the units. The contractors they sent were very courteous and professional. Since the service, both the units have been working fine. I didn't know my washing machine was a self-leveling one and I could reset it by pulling it forward. I learn something new every day. I've already recommended American Home Shield. I've told people the ease with which I could get work done through AHS.

The AC wasn’t cooling so I contacted AHS who assigned the request to Eagle Cooling and Air. They showed up and changed the filter. I had to call and create another request. After several calls, they showed up a few days later and changed the fan motor. A few days later I had to call them again for the same issue. This time the contractor never called me back and AHS insisted that I should wait for their call several days later. Every time I call them, I am on hold for at least 30 mins. Most agents disconnect the call before they pick up. When it is hot and humid, AC is a must but AHS couldn’t care less. I was told that if the contractor doesn’t call back within 24 hrs AHS will provide other options but to date they have refused to. I will never use them again and will do my best to spread the word.

We had to file our first claim at the end of August, we noticed our gas water heater was leaking in the garage. We call American Home Shield told them what was going on and paid our $100 service fee for the company they recommend to come out. The company that came out decided to come on September 3rd which was Labor Day! All the guy did was take a glance at our water heater and said, "Yup. Needs replaced", he was very unhappy that he had to be here on a holiday just for that. He told us everything looked good though he said we were up to code and did NOT need any modifications done, just a new water heater. We thought, "Great. Will wait to hear from American Home Shield". Well the next day American Home Shield calls us and tells us they will cover the cost of a new water heater and labor BUT... it’s going to cost us 800$+ to be up to code and for modifications!
Now we’re pissed. We were lied to by the company that came out to look at our water heater! So September 4th we asked about the cash out option. American Home Shield put in an order and we would just wait for authorization on that. They said it usually takes 48 hours, well a week later here we are still waiting to see if the cash out option is even worth it. All while our garage is being flooded! I keep getting the run around every time I call and one time was called a liar! So thanks for taking our money and $100 SERVICE FEE that did absolutely NOTHING! I will not recommend you guys to anyone! WHAT A JOKE!

Used the website to submit HVAC repair. Received a email and text that Low Country Heating and Air would be out on Tuesday 11 September between 5-7 pm. Took the day off waiting for them to arrive at 5:30. I get a text saying my appointment was rescheduled for 12 September between 6:30 and 8 pm. Totally unacceptable. Call AHS and of course I am on hold waiting for them to pick up. I been with this company for over 10 years. They have no problems taking their monthly payments but when it comes to providing for the customer no thoughts are given. Take my advice and run from this company. Do not use them.

On July 2, 2018, I requested repair service for my refrigerator. AHS's contractor inspected the refrigerator and could not able to find cause of the problem. After a week or so another technician came and ordered a board to be replaced. It did not work, and they ordered another part. They told me that they have to do try and error instead of calling LG to find out the cause of the problem. It has been over nine weeks and problem is not fixed. AHS has refused to send another subcontractor who could have better understanding of the problem.

Pathetic service. I have had multiple issues over the years and is seldom that the assigned vendor is able to fix the problem first time around. It takes each time over an hour to get thru to someone when you call. And when you do, you get put on hold and hold another 30 to 40 minutes. I am writing this review while holding for 53 minutes. This is regarding a service request placed 54 days ago.

Our house came with AHS. On the website it says electrical issues are covered. But the vent in the bathroom isn't. Not under the bathroom aspect or the electric part. We had another issue that wasn't covered either. We got leaky toilets. Finally something was covered. Plumbers called the next day came out in 48hrs. They called in and were put on hold. After 30 minutes of being on hold they said they had to go to their next job. They never got approval to work. So they came, we are billed $75 and our issue is not resolved! I'm paying for no work... all because AHS isn't doing their job. I'm still trying to get ahold of AHS. When they come back, I better not get a SECOND fee just because there was no approval to make the fix!!!

My washing machine didn’t work. Filing a claim for it over the phone with American Home Shield was easy. The contractors that they sent had been out here before for the same washer and they were awesome. They got it fixed quickly and they were very courteous. Unfortunately, the washer needed a transmission. The tech came out the next morning after the part came in and got the washer working. I love the contractors that AHS uses, like Martin's Appliances. They come out as soon as they possibly can and they get the job done. Previously, AHS sent people out to replace my AC heat unit, too. American Home Shield was awesome and they have kept our service charge low. I'm billed $75, whereas for people that just joined up it is $125. I'd recommend them.

American Home Shield has terrible customer service and terrible contractors. I filed a claim on July 16 for our air conditioner that went out and since then, the contractor has tried to fix it a couple of times but they've messed up the repair. I got a new schedule and it's supposed to be fixed next week. Aside from that, American Home Shield's frontline CSRs are also terribly trained. They are the worst. I've spent hours on the phone waiting to talk to people and trying to find anybody who knew what they were doing and could help me out.

Submitting the claim for the repair of the air conditioner was quite simple. We did it online and it was handled very quickly. I've also done submitting the claim over the phone and it was equally satisfactory. The contractor called us immediately to set up an appointment and they arrived exactly when they said they would. They had to order some parts and they came back. It was pretty quick. It was in within a day or two and they fixed the problem. They did a good job and we've had no further issues with it. I would recommend American Home Shield and I would tell a friend they need to join up.

American Home Shield had done what they said they would do. When my microwave quit running I filed a claim online and they sent me the information. The contractor came right out to check. He fixed one thing and it lasted for a little while, and then it quit again. It was what he was afraid of. He told American Home Shield about it and then the part that was bad, was not one that was replaceable. You had to change the whole thing. So the contractor worked with American Home Shield and made it easy on me. My microwave got replaced and the new one works great. I also had a plumbing claim and I was able to have it fixed without a problem.

When our refrigerator had a leak, I submitted a repair claim with American Home Shield over the phone. Their rep was very good and it was easy dealing with the contractor they sent out. He was telling us what had happened with the refrigerator and talked to us about what he was doing. It’s working good now. However, AHS was getting too expensive for us that I couldn’t renew, so I went to a cheaper company. Other than that, they were great and we had an excellent experience with them.

I’m a real estate agent and I’ve been selling American Home Shield warranty since 2010. Also, I've been using them personally for three years now. I've had very professional contractors through AHS. Though the customer service from AHS is not always up there, they always do the right thing in the end. However, I’m really upset with them right now. They are not servicing me properly.
The guy that they chose for my furnace issue did an exceptional job and had incredible customer service. But the AHS reps that I dealt with in the beginning were slack off. My washing machine has been down, and the check guy from Fred’s Appliance sent in a request for parts on Friday. They never received the call back from AHS, which meant the parts were not ordered. Today I heard that they’re not coming to repair my machine. So now I’m going a week and a half without a washing machine. I have a little child and I have guests coming in town. All this is because American Home Shield did not bother to respond to Fred’s Appliance.

The washer and then the dryer needed some repairs. Ennis responded very quickly. I just had to wait for everything to go through the proper channels at American Home Shield. Ennis came and said that the bearings on the washer were gone. They decided it was too expensive to repair and replaced it. Then they did some work on the dryer. We’ve had to use it twice for one week and it got very hot and wouldn’t cool down. They came back out to look at it and replaced the dryer as well. Once they pronounced the appliances dead, it took four days to get the value. At first, they gave us a choice and there was no money involved.
When the delivery company came to install the washer, they said they couldn’t turn the water off. Where the washer was hooked up behind the wall, it was not a typical one with a typical valve and they couldn’t figure it out. I said we could shut the water over at the main, but they said they don’t do that. They turned around and said they'd just deliver the washer. I said no they won’t. The contract was deliver, install and take the old one out. They wouldn’t even let me make a phone call. I was gonna call American Home Shield. I was also gonna call the person that put that valve in the house to find out how you shut it off. The delivery people said they didn't have time to wait. That took about a week to settle. We had Lowes come and replace it and it took them a whole 15 minutes to take the old washer out and put a new one in.
They should make the process much simpler by empowering everybody. When I wanted to find out what the buy-out value was they said it was a separate department. Why is that a separate department? All they have to do is put it on the computer, give the reps access. They have a chart. This is the age, this is the model, here’s the what they pay for it. It’s not brain surgery or rocket science.

I had a heater that could not keep the temperature up at anything reasonable. The online process of submitting a claim for that wasn’t very friendly and was fairly difficult. Even when I’m ordering online, it’s quirky as hell. And now, I have a process where I go check to see if it worked and if I actually got the confirmation. It used to be I could file and forget, and now, I could not. However, once the heating and air company was notified, it worked fine. It took three days for someone to come out and the interaction with the contractor was great, but they were fairly slow, to contact and to get out. But it was what it was and it was cold to get out at the time. It’s been several months since the repair and the heater works fine. It still struggles. The problem is the unit appears to be too small for the house. So, this heating problem is probably gonna rear its ugly head again.

We purchased the house and we had a home inspection done on it. Everything was working fine then, but the air conditioner went out. The outside compressor was not running and we did not have any air conditioning on a side of the house at a time when the temperature was about 100-degree heat. Our realtor reminded us that we have a warranty with American Home Shield, so I called them and they sent a contractor out. The contractor, Haskins Heating and Air Conditioning, came out the next day and they were very professional and quick. Surprisingly, they had the parts that they needed. They got the AC back in business and it has worked fine since the repair.
We have moved a number of times and we’ve had home warranties on homes. They’ve always been for a year and we’ve never extended them. This is the first time we have ever used one and it was a very good experience to the point that we've talked about using AHS some more and extending our warranty with them when the time comes. We have already recommended them to some some friends and family.

I had to call American Home Shield when my dryer was not functioning one day. They contacted the appliance repair person and they, in turn, contacted me. We spoke on the phone and they asked if I had the vent line cleaned out of lint. I explained that I had just bought the house and I had not done it since I had moved in and I don’t know if it had been done previously. They told me that sometimes the lint on the vent line will be the case. So my husband and I made the decision to contact the person that the appliance dealer suggested that would come out for a fee to clean the vent. And once we did that, the dryer functioned perfectly. It was a type of sensor that would not allow it to operate until that vent had been cleaned. In closing, everybody at AHS has been very helpful.

When none of the outlets worked in our daughter’s bedroom, I checked the breaker but it was fine. I checked to see if it was the ceiling fan that was installed before we had moved in, but nothing was there, so at that point, I didn’t wanna mess with the outlets. We called American Home Shield and put a claim in. Our interaction with the reps was excellent and very professional. The contractor, Collins Electric, was also very professional on the phone and they were out within a couple of days. They were on time and got everything done. What the technician found was behind one of the outlets, a wire was loose. It was a good thing we found it because it was a loose wire and it was arching against the metal bracket.
We found out that as far as all of the outlets in the bedroom, it was like a Christmas tree light that when you lose one bulb, you lose all. The one outlet behind the dresser had a loose connection and it caused all the others not to work either, so the technician did a bit of wiring repair and it has been fine since. He was very thorough as far as his explanation of the repairs that were done and everything was excellent. That very same week, we had a refrigerator go bad and we got a brand new refrigerator.
I've been highly recommending American Home Shield to everybody. I tell all my friends who are looking for a house or under review as far as who their mortgage company is in trying to get a loan for a house that if they get approved and get that house, to make sure they get AHS. I also tell that to friends and families and people I know that don’t have AHS who are having problems with their stuff and are paying out-of-pocket. I always make sure I give them AHS' website and phone number.

My dryer was making an ungodly sound and it was making me crazy It was squeaking and it sounded like metal-on-metal scratching. I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield and it was easy. By doing it online I can get the claim done faster and I don't have to wait on hold. We had to have the contractor come out in the evening because my husband and I both work. He was here for just a few minutes and he had to order a part. He was gonna come out the next day but nobody would be there in the morning to let him in, so he had to come out for another week.
I watched what the contractor was doing, so I knew exactly what was going on. He didn't mind telling how it all worked and showed me the different parts that needed to be changed out. He was very kind and it took him about 20 minutes. He took a bunch of clips and a little plastic piece that held the metal away from each other and allowed it to freely move without scratching. Then he turned the dryer on and it was working well. Overall, I had positive and timely service done and I would recommend AHS.

Called AHS about a leaking hot water tank on Thursday afternoon, the technician from A Crown Plumbing did show up the next day as scheduled. Then began to say that the tank needed to be replaced but he thought a shorter tank would be easier for him to install. I told him I’d be ok with that as long as there were no additional costs to me, otherwise do a one for one swap. Technician then switched to “well we can’t do it until next week”, wait, it’s Friday. He indicated that he didn’t have enough work to justify coming in. Why is that my problem?
I called AHS and the customer service rep assured me that if A Crown Plumbing couldn’t get it done the next day they’d get another company to do it (AHS check your recordings). We did get a call from AHS Sunday indicating that the contractor submitted an estimate for $675: $100 to modify a ground, $100 to modify the PVC drain, 150 to adjust the pipes, $150 for this and that and so on for a total of $675.00.
We explained to the AHS rep to please get a written estimate indicating which items were required code upgrades and which are not, as well as an explanation of what all the charges are and why any would be ours since we’re already paying AHS for the insurance, I would expect that if a flex line must be replaced when the tank is it would be included. Well it’s Monday at almost the end of the business day and nothing from either AHS or A Crown Plumbing. So it’s looking like a few more cold showers are in my future. I hate to say it but this is really not much of a surprise AHS responsiveness has always been less that prompt. Save your money in a piggybank you'll be much happier.

When you are in an emergency type situation, my experience with AHS has not been good. My sump pump went out and basement is flooded. The contractor that they provided me does not answer their phone or return your calls. I have spent 1.5 hours today trying to get back in touch with AHS, most of this time is spent on hold to speak to someone. When I do get to speak to someone, they put me on hold and then the phone gets disconnected. I asked that they call me back if we get disconnected again and heard nothing back. I need to get this situation resolved quickly and it is not happening. I just want to be able to have resolution to this very frustrating problem.
Updated on 09/11/2018: After spending 1.5 hours during the day on hold on 9/10, we contacted them that evening at 7 pm and waited 45 mins to get someone on the phone. They stated the same thing, they needed to try to get in contact with the contractor they provided us initially. We didn't get disconnected this time, but stated they left the contractor a message and would need to wait for a response.
I then contacted AHS this morning, waited another 25 mins on hold, got someone and everyone sounds the same... very difficult to understand. I told them everything that has happened and they wanted to put me on hold to get in contact with the contractor again. I said, I have already tried calling the contractor twice this morning and no answer. They stated they have guidelines they have to follow. I stated I understand that, but I have an emergency type situation on my hands and cannot wait a week just to hear back from the contractor for an initial call. I stated I do not know how a company stays in business by not answering calls or returning messages left for them. I stated that I need to get this resolved today, there was silence and the person at AHS hung up on me.
I then get contacted by someone from the company via this Consumer Affairs site. They wanted my info to resolve the situation. I gave it to them and a few mins later, I had a missed call and a text message from the contractor - The Service People Inc., in Columbus Ohio. They stated they had been in the office all day yesterday, 9/10, when I had called and hadn't received a call or voicemail from me. They only received a call from American Home Shield and they were trying to contact me to schedule an appt.
They said when they called my cell phone #, they could not leave a message. I have received plenty of messages on my phone. So the contractor, The Service People, Inc., are not being truthful to me and only contacted me once I had escalated the issue on this site. When I contacted them back, they said the first available appt. they had is this Thursday afternoon, 9/13. I stated this is unacceptable, as my basement is flooded and my sump pump is not working. They said that they are booked and that is all they can do and could not send someone out today, when we have someone there at the house dealing with this mess in our basement.
My assumption is that this contractor that American Home Shield has set up, is conveniently not available to take calls and then they cannot come out until late in the week. This is their way of getting you to go with someone else, so they don't have to pay for it. I would not recommend American Home Shield or The Service People Inc., in Columbus, Ohio.

We had an issue with our sump pump not working and standing water on the side of our house. We put in a claim through our home warranty and they sent out a company from Columbus (an hour and a half away from where we live). It took a few days to get the company out and they claimed to know the problem and replaced our sump pump.
A few days later during a heavy rainfall, we experienced standing water again on the side of house, threatening to flood our basement. We researched American Home Shield's expedited claim policy, but at that point we couldn't wait for their "expedited" service and called a local company to fix our issue. The local company was out within an hour and repaired the actual problem with the sump pump, which was a clog in the drain line to the sewer.
When I called today to see if they would reimburse any of our costs, I was met with an hour hold time (twice!) and a very rude customer service agent who told me there were "absolutely NO circumstances under which they will reimburse" and that there is "no way they'd pay for an outside company." This customer service rep did not listen to me and did not seem to understand that I was unhappy with the unthorough work from the company they made us work with. I am going to be canceling our contract with them and finding a different home warranty company to work with.

We arrived home from a short trip Thursday afternoon to find the refrigerator freezer was not working. Put in a service request on Friday morning and the service provider they gave us was in CA. We live in TX. After contacting AHS by phone they gave us the name/number of a provider in our city. We called him and he could not make it out to our home until Monday because his truck was broke down. We called back (with a long phone time wait) and were told their other service providers could not make it out until Monday or Tuesday.
When we asked to find a repairman in our area, then send AHS the invoice, minus the service call fee, they said it was within their rights in the contract to provide service within 48 hours (2 BUSINESS days) and they would not pay a service provider we hired independently to fix the appliance. We did find one to come out that afternoon and repair the freezer @ a cost to us of $225. We will not be renewing our contract with AHS when it expires in December. They do not seem to care about the customer, only their inflexible policy.

I was charged $49.44 in June, $49.43 in July, $60.98 in August, and $60.98 in Sept. I was under impression that I was canceled in June and she said no she didn't receive request so I never canceled. In the meantime I am out $171.39 that I was unaware of. Your company has very bad policies if this is the case. I thought that the customer came first above all. Sorry that your company is the exception. I will never do business with you nor will I recommend you to others.

After trying to resolve this with the CSR dept at AHS for 2 months, I was finally able to get a satisfactory resolution to this in just 4 days since my original post on here. The person I was able to speak with from AHS cared about the situation and worked quickly to understand both issues and then work to resolve them. She was very professional, took responsibility for the errors, and even mentioned that further training for staff may be an appropriate internal response to this. This turned out better than I expected, thank you AHS!

I've been with American Home Shield for roughly 2 years now, and it's been pretty uneventful until now. I recently changed bank accounts, and because I wasn't able to delete my banking information within my online account on my own (which seems antiquated to me), I called in and spoke to someone in their billing dept. This person went through the steps to delete my old information and I thought my next payment with my new account would happen smoothly. Boy was I wrong. In summary, AHS kept trying to run a service charge of $75 through my old account, which resulted in 5 NSF charges.
Trying to get it resolved was very frustrating, mostly because I couldn't get anyone there, even the supervisor I eventually got a hold of, to call me back once I provided them with the necessary documentation. His ID is ** if anyone at AHS cares to follow up about this. I am always the one calling in to speak with him in order to move the issue along and get updates. In the meantime, I've been double charged for this month because of how my policy renewed. Even though they've reassured me that the refund is on the way, it's been a week and it's still now showing up in my account. So, I'm still waiting for a resolution to both issues...I'm actually waiting on hold to speak with him as I write this.
I figured if their own staff can't be motivated to take good care of their customers, maybe some public pressure will help. My advice to anyone shopping for this type of service is to know what you're getting into. AHS isn't a terrible company, but their customer service is well below average. I gave 2 stars in fairness to the "uneventful" year and half or so with them, with no issues like this surfacing. Hopefully my 2 issues get resolved soon.
Hi, Nicole. We apologize that you are having those payment issues and will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to further assist you with a resolution.

We have a problem with our A/C so we made a service request online. The service contractor (Extreme Heating and Air) came and found out that there is a leak in the evap coil and needs to be replaced. They told us that AHS will not cover the cost so I tried to call the customer service number to verify but nobody answers. I was on hold for almost an hour so I just decided to hang up. I did it several times but to no avail. Frustrated with this situation since I don't have A/C since August 31st. So yesterday I told the contractor that I will just pay that $1610 just to have that a/c back. As of today (9/10/18) I have not received any call or email from AHS but when I looked at the website it shows the job was complete. I will cancel my service soon and tell the world how bad they are. So I waited on the phone for about 30 minutes before I got a representative, but they were friendly and helpful. They got everything I needed done. The 2 contractors that came out were also excellent. I showed them the problem and they did a great job. Usually, I have to have a follow up in the past, but this one that came out this time they did real good with it. The last claim I had was with my AC unit. The contractor said he had to get a part and when they had it they needed another part so I waited so long. Good thing I had my daughter that lives down here because we didn't have heat in almost the whole month while waiting on them. But they eventually got it right.

He did a good job and it turned out that a capacitor had to be replaced in the pool equipment. It's been running fine ever since. Also, I like the way American Home Shield has set up where I pay the deductible directly to them and I don’t have to deal with money with the contractor. That’s a very smart idea on their part.
Great Jennie! That is exactly what we like to hear. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield and their website was a little old but navigating it was not difficult. The website is not up to the latest design but it’s functional. The mechanic came in in less than 48 hours and he looked into the attic. There was a container that held condensation water and he told me that dust was collecting and blocking it. He just cleaned it up and then everything was fine. Having a warranty on my property is important and it is good to have but I’m not convinced that it is a must-have. I was with a different vendor previously and I was not satisfied. AHS though, I would recommend.

Our microwave stopped working and my wife submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Conner's Appliance came out and they were great. Everything is working fine since the repair. Having the warranty is really valuable and we've been more than pleased with the service we've got from AHS. But I've recommended them to my parents and they have a completely different experience, which isn't necessarily a good one. They live in an area that's in close proximity to a very affluent area. Because of that, AHS is having a really difficult time finding contracting partners because contractors wanna work directly and bill directly in the affluent areas. They have no interest in partnering with someone like AHS so, they can't get service even though AHS seems to be more than happy to take their premiums.

After my husband and I did some research online, we found American Home Shield to have good ratings and people seemed happy with them. It's like having a safety net for when something breaks, so we have peace of mind. When we filed a claim for our dryer, it didn't take AHS long to get their contractor out. The contractor listened to us talk about the dryer and he worked on it quickly. It was beeping and the lights on the front panel were going crazy, and sometimes it just wouldn't work. Since the repair, it seems to be working and we haven't had any problems with it so we're happy. It's our first home and our first home warranty, and we've had a good experience. When I had a problem with my air conditioner unit, I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. The process was simple and the contractor who came out was fine. However, he checked out the AC unit but the problem wasn't the unit specifically and it needed a plumber. We tried to refile the claim but we found out that American Home Shield didn't cover what the problem was. And so we had to call on our own. We didn't even use American Home Shield for that.
We've been using American Home Shield for years. And for the most part, they provide the coverage that we need. There have been a few times though where we had to go back and forth with them to get something rectified. As a result of this, one of the things that struck me was that the website where we filed the initial claim is not specific in terms of what you can share while making the claim. Had we been able to do that, we would've ended up having the plumber out right off the bat. Furthermore, I'd tell everyone to read the fine print especially with regards to coverage. You can't assume that they're gonna cover anything without any question or any difficulty in terms of trying to get a resolution.
In addition, we've had situations where we've had people come in and the next thing, they're telling us that we gotta get a whole new thing. They're trying to make money off of us rather than just fixing the problem. So, when I submit a claim, they just have people on the list that basically pops up and whoever is available, that's who they send out. There's no apparent scrutiny of how good these various plumbing, HVAC and electric appliance companies and their technicians may be and how well they perform.

I had some issues with my washer and dryer and I called it in. Calling American Home Shield for claims is a little bit better because I trust it. He didn’t give my son a chance to move it. When we called the contractor back to reschedule, we had a hard time getting this person. It would take days for him to call back. So the case was over 30 days, and he said that the deal was closed even though he never did anything at my house.
I called American Home Shield to let them know the situation and they opened the case back up. Then I called the contractor back to tell this to him. He said he needed to call American Home Shield and I never heard from him again. I have requested American Home Shield for a different provider but they asked me if I would give them the opportunity to reach out to the gentleman again. When they tried to reach out, they were not able to contact him. So, they sent someone out who was really thorough. The contractor was able to tell me what was going on with my washer and dryer. The tech was polite and professional, and he replaced the unit.
AHS has been very responsive and it was only in one situation a number of years ago that we didn’t hear back from the contractor within the 24-hour period. I went online to do a claim with American Home Shield and it was very hard to get to the site. When you just put American Home Shield AHS.com in, all you see is, "Well, if you wanna buy it, this is how you buy it," but there's hardly anything on service calls. But once you eventually find the site, then it works well. There's also the frustration of being on the telephone on hold because they've got a back-up calls. It's something that I've been experiencing. I've had the plumbing issues resolved very quickly, efficiently and easily when my 3 toilets were not flushing well. The small appliances person was also great. It all seems to have worked out fine. But I have air conditioning issues and they've not been resolved in a month.
I just talked to American Home Shield yesterday after waiting about half an hour for them to get on the phone. I don't know if the company they sent are just doing the plumbing or the whole shebang. It's just been a circus. The company that is supposed to be doing the work, Total Air Care, is supposed to call me and they have not. They've kept me in the dark and I've told them over and over again. I'm almost fed up with American Home Shield and I'm definitely fed up with Total Air Care. Usually, if I have one little problem, I call AHS and then the contractors comes to solve it and I move on. But this kind of just backed up on me. So I've had three different types of service calls to make. Two out of the three have been just fine but the AC people, it's either they're too big or something. They don't communicate. I've called them directly and I have to wait on the line for 20 to 30 minutes every time.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years and things have just gotten downhill since we started. It’s worse every year. When you call in, you may be on hold for 45 minutes before you can talk to somebody and it can be even longer. I watched an entire Little League baseball game waiting on hold. I even have their executive officer’s number on speed dial because I’ve called her so many times and she’s been incredibly good. But the caliber of the companies that they send out is getting very bad. We hardly never had a company come out that we didn't have a problem.
One of the worst contractors that AHS have is for the air conditioning. A company called Baylis was out there five times for the same problem. The last time, they were there for about two minutes and then they said they couldn’t help up since they insisted it was an electrical problem and not the air conditioner, and they left. Then, we had the R & R Electric come out. They were there about three or four minutes and said that it was the compressor that shorted our air conditioner. We had to call another company because I wouldn’t allow Baylis to come back out anymore. So, American Home Shield sent a company out who found the problem and fixed it. So, it wasn’t an electrical problem in the first place.

Whenever I need to file a claim, if the wait time is not long, I usually prefer speaking to a person rather than doing it online because then they can cover up any mistakes I might be making and I don’t wanna click the wrong things. But this last time, the online filing was easy and I submitted my claim online because I didn’t wanna wait on the phone. AHS got me a contractor very quickly. I submitted the claim late at night and the next morning I got a phone call from the contractor, Tech-tonics AC and Appliance Repair, and they said they could come. They were there in the afternoon. Two techs came and talked to me about my dryer, and they were friendly. They got the job done and they fixed the dryer.
Also, I got a new stove a little while ago through AHS and that was great. But I forgot to take all of the pots and pans out of the bottom of my old stove. I called the contractor that American Home Shield had sent out for that claim an hour after the techs left and I told them that if they were in Tulsa, I’d come and get my pots and pans. But they never got back to me and that is a bummer. I would have been fine if they had said that they were sorry and my stove is long gone or if I had gotten any response from them. Since we moved into this house, everything seems to be falling apart. It's a 30-year old house and the person that owned it didn't take care of anything. You can't tell until it breaks down. The six-year old dryer just broke down. We ended up paying from our pocket for a whole solar panel issue and our most recent claim was about our refrigerator. We've made about five different calls with American Home Shield and they responded to and followed through everything. The spa was one our very first things. It wasn't blowing any water and heat, and it turned out to be a series of issues that some way have used with American Home Shield because it was on warranty.
I submitted claims over the phone, because we had just moved in back in July so I wasn't set up for anything. I usually just use the phone anyway because it goes much quicker. The internet is not as helpful as what people try to make it. If AHS was to send me an email, I would have seen that later on today and I would have potentially answered or not answered it. I pick up the phone and you heard from me immediately.
The contractor for the spa knew what he was doing, did some work and then helped one of the people in the problem that helped to fix it as it was a multiple stop problem. Then about a thousand dollars later, we're in the specs. The only thing that isn't a part of it, in terms of the whole pool structure, are the pipes that go to the roof, and the solar heating and valves because those are big wear and tear. We had all those replaced. Fortunately, if there is something wrong, there is American Home Shield to take care of it. There still might be a problem with the spa now where the heater is not working. I'll call American Home Shield for that one, which would be wonderful because if it is a problem, that's gonna save me a lot of money.
The only thing I wasn't happy with was the original because they had an emergency. When we first moved in here, one of our air conditioners which was at the third floor stopped working. It was in the living section of the house and people had to sleep on couches for a week. It was real slow, but that's how they operate. You're gonna have to wait if you choose to save money.

So when he was going to leave because it wouldn't make the noise, I finally told him that I knew it was coming from this particular spot. He took the motor out and that was bad and it was the one making the noise.
He ordered another motor and a couple of weeks later, he came and replaced it. It took him about 30 seconds to replace it and that was it. In addition to that, when we lived in Las Vegas, we had AHS contractors come out and they had excellent service. I am extremely disappointed with our American Home Shield home warranty. We had the Pick 10 plan that included HVAC because our system was 24 years old. In May, our system stopped blowing cold air and we put in an AHS service request. The service contractor said that the system needed to be replaced but that AHS would require Freon replacement at least three times before they would authorize a replacement. With the price of Freon, that would cost us approximately $1000 before AHS would even consider replacing the system.
We had two other companies look at the system and both said we needed a replacement. They also mentioned that replacing the Freon would only allow for 2-3 weeks of cool air before the Freon needed to be replaced again due to a leaky Freon tube, meaning we would have hot air blowing during the hot summer months and would have to wait a couple days each time we needed the Freon replaced due to contractor scheduling. We opted to get the entire system replaced instead of replacing the Freon three times costing us $1000 with no guarantee that AHS would eventually replace the system. After we had the system replaced, AHS refused to pay any of the system replacement cost even though the system was 24 years old. I wholeheartedly do not recommend AHS because they are unwilling to replace HVACs when replacement is obvious.

The difference in the price they extend to a realtor when you’re buying the home and what you have to pay after the fact is a lot despairing. I had American Home Shield in another home in the past and when I purchased our new house, I added them into it again. Shortly after we moved in, we had a claim for the air conditioner which wasn't cooling properly. Then our second problem was with the refrigerator. It kept heating up with maintained temperature. I went online to submit a claim for that. It was very convenient and AHS immediately responded. They sent out N & K Appliance Service and the appliance repairman was very professional, knowledgeable and always on time. He also always got back to me quickly. The unit seems to be working fine now.

The dishwasher pump stopped working on a rental house. The renters let me know about it and I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online. Somebody contacted me within 24 hours and the contractor came out and fixed it. The people who do the repair are always really good. AHS gives me peace of mind and depending on the claim, it doesn't cost me more than $75. Over a year, it costs me over $600 but it's worth it. I've been really happy with AHS.

The first time we had someone come out and look at the dishwasher, the contractor that AHS sent said, "this is a problem." But then, it still wasn't running great. He didn't do a whole cycle so he didn't realize that the drying element, the blower was broken. We ended up paying for a second person to come out three months later and tell us that it was older and we have to run our hot water and get a dishwasher cleaner which he charged us for but it didn't do anything better. So, it would be nice if we could get the money back if the technician didn't fix the problem. But I don't have complaints 'cause we got a new dishwasher.
When we got approval to replace our dishwasher and our wall oven, they showed us options on what we could get and then they said if that wasn't what I liked and if I wanted to get my own, I could just submit the receipt and they'd reimburse me X dollars or whatever it was. I sent that on the 28th of August. It's looking about two weeks now, but I didn't get a response that it was even received or that it's been looked at. So that's a little concerning. But the process and mailing time generally takes 10 to 14 days and we're still within that timeframe. Maybe next week, if I don't hear anything, I'll give a call and make sure that they got everything that they need.
Our AC had a thermostat issue recently as well. It was one of the original analogs and there was no real way of telling what it was actually set at. If we set it at 85, that made the house comfortable which obviously wasn't right. The AC guys were fantastic and everyone was really good. They helped answer some questions 'cause we wanted to eventually get an Eco V but we weren't sure if we had the right setup. He actually took me downstairs and showed me all the wiring stuff and how we would be able to upgrade. They said that we didn't have to spend the money to call them back to install something different that we were fully capable of doing it on our own. It was really nice to have someone be like, "Don't waste your money," because we've only had the house for six months and we've been constantly spending money on stuff that it turns out we don't actually need.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield online is more convenient than over the phone. And most of the contractors sent out have been great. They've been very friendly and professional. They email or make a telephone call to say they're on the way. But we've had a couple that were very unprofessional. They blew the issue off. When I tried to do a claim for an AC issue, one said, "It's your filters," and left. But it turned out that the damper and the control panel were shorting out and the claim was denied because apparently, American Home Shield doesn't cover the motherboard.

I have three AC units in this house and two of them have had issues. The most recent one was the attic AC unit that stopped working. I submitted a claim to AHS online which I really like. They make it easy. Then, immediately, I got a text saying to whom it was assigned and that gave me the ability to call the contractor and get a specific time. It was Labor Day weekend and I felt like I was in crisis mode. So I was really impressed that they came out in timely manner and that he had the part to get it fixed. They replaced the capacitor on the outside unit.
I still have concerns about that unit because it was fixed at 2 in the afternoon and the upstairs area had warmed up to 80 degrees. At 10 at night, it was still sitting at 78 degrees. I had the service person out again the next day and he said that he had tested the the Freon and that everything read right. He configured out why it had not adjusted. And then, throughout the day, it doesn’t seem to hold the temperature so I still have a problem. Also, maybe my problem falls outside of his knowledge base. He was checking the 10 things that you’re supposed to check and he couldn’t explain why the unit wasn’t cooling off the way it should. He said if I wanna have it looked at again, I should call American Home Shield and see if they can assign a different contractor or a different service provider because it would be a good idea to get a different set of eyes on this issue. That was where he left it with me.
But I was happy with the timeliness of the service. They got me scheduled right away in the timeframe that worked for me and they were really responsive and personable. They explained things to me as well. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them to get a policy. I don't like the $75 every time somebody comes out because that's a big deal. But I've had to call a few times and I’ve been with happy with the responsiveness and the service so far.

I logged into American Home Shield's website and put in a request for service due to my garbage disposal not working. It looked to be stuck. AHS referred me to the plumber who called me. It was a smooth set up. The earliest the guy had in the schedule was two days out, but he got here when he said he would and got the garbage disposal fixed. It was quick and simple. He was great and he explained to me what was going on. We had an old garbage disposal and after he repaired it, he said it would probably start acting up again. He said that it was already weak and on its last leg. I have had one minor problem since he left, but I was able to take care of it myself. Overall, AHS is a good program and to date, I’m happy with the coverage.

It was a husband and wife team. They were very polite, clean and uniformed. Everything that I would want, they seemed to fulfill. The AC needed Freon and it was all fixed in one trip. Having a home warranty is one of the things I like to keep in my back pocket in case I'm in a bind. I'm just happy. I had a leak under the sink and the American Home Shield contractor came out and fixed it. He said that I had a crack in my garbage disposal and it needed fixing. So, I called AHS and they sent somebody out, looked at it and said, "No there's nothing wrong with it." They didn't do anything but I still got charged $75 for that. And the sink was still leaking. The guy that came out and fixed the leak under the sink didn't turn the water on to check it so he had to come back out. It's frustrating having to get people to come back and forth, in and out.
For the most part, my experience with American Home Shield has been okay. But I don't like it when people don't show up and that happened. When I called AHS to get someone else to come out here, they'd say, "Well, we have to call them and find out why they didn't come." It took a lot longer to get stuff done because of all that. It's like hit and miss. But as far as AHS getting me hooked up to whoever I need to be, that has worked out good. Every time I've called and had an issue, AHS took care of it and I didn't have to worry about it. It's been easy on that end.

Their techs were very nice, courteous and informative. They also answered all my questions.
The first time, there was nothing wrong. There was just a piece of paper stuck on the fan and the tech removed it. And then the second time, it was leaking water and it went into my bedroom. The American Home Shield reps are really good people and they take care of the problem when I submit claims. I do it over the phone and the customer service is fantastic. They send someone out in a day or two. They have to contact the contractor and the contractor contacts me to get a good date and time. When I had a plumbing issue, a technician from Accurate Plumbing came and went right straight to the problem and fixed it. However, American Home Shield is trying to collect on the $75 co-pay that’s already been paid.
We've never had a problem with American Home Shield other than this one time. I've got the canceled check and everything else shows that it was deposited and the money was given to Accurate. But American Home Shield won't take a copy of the canceled check as proof and they have to hear it directly from the contractor, which I think is wrong. American Home Shield can't get in touched with them and I can't get hold of the contractor also as he won't answer the phone. All that we get is a recording. Still, American Home Shield has been great to us.

I had an issue with my washer and dryer. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent the contractor who has always been great whenever he came out. Since the repair, the dryer works fantastic but my washer is completely jacked up. About a week ago when the tech was here, he told us that the problem was because there are some suds in the drum and the sensor was reading that. But when I went to do what he said to help remedy that situation, the washer threw two other codes. When I talked to him, he told me that that sounded like the motherboard was going out and that I had to contact American Home Shield to get the process started for its replacement.
And that is what I'm doing now but, it seems like there is a loss of translation right at the moment. I'm waiting for them to call me and we can get this figured out faster. I'm also still waiting for the tech to come back out, look at the washer, and put in the notes that the unit is inoperable or cannot be fixed. It needs to be replaced. I don’t like to spend 15 bucks to wash my clothes and dry them. So my problem is I have to wait for the tech to be unbusy, so I can set on when I'm gonna be able to get a new washer. Other than that, every time I use American Home Shield, they are great. And when my contract ends, I'll pay for another year. I've also told people to get a warranty from them. It is worth it.

The water in my dishwasher wasn't draining out. I tried calling in the claim but American Home Shield had me on hold for 30 minutes. So, I finally went online and did it. The online claims process was fine except that it didn't tell me that it was a recall. The claim was for a call back or to reevaluate the work that was done before. But online, it just said someone to come back out and re-inspect, and none of that ever worked yet. So the terminology used online is very misleading. Also, AHS should stop sending me all of their advertisement because I'm already a member.
After filing online, the contractor called me the next day and they were wonderful. The technician looked at the dishwasher and he said he was perplexed, but he thought the problem was probably the pump. He told me to check and see if the dishwasher filled up with water and call him if it did, which it didn't. But he still thought the pump went out so they ordered me another one.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has always been super easy. I do it online most of the time. But this last round, I did it on the phone 'cause the last time I did it online, there was a duplicate disaster. It took me about a year to get that straightened and I'm not even sure if that's fixed yet. I had a claim for my air conditioner and the contractor that came out was the same company AHS sent out in January for my heater. I wasn’t thrilled with them in January when they came. My husband's a former air conditioner guy and he had already diagnosed the problem. He just was waiting for the contractor to repair it and unfortunately, he went out of town and gave me the instructions to tell them. When the contractors came, they tried everything but what he said it was and it took four visits before one of the contractors that came out told me what my husband had said.
So, we went five days with trouble when it could have been one. While I understand that they gotta go through their process and we appreciate their process, it's frustrating as the homeowner. In closing, this is the third house in 15 years we've had with American Home Shield and it's an insurance type program that unfortunately, ties your hand. If you're paying for it yourself, somebody's gonna come right away. So, if you're waiting for your home warranty, you're looking at waiting a little while but that's okay. That's the choice we make. Given our experience, we've recommended AHS to many people.

I switched to American Home Shield from First American for the same reason that American Home Shield tried to do to us today 9/8/2018. I was assured that when I signed up for American Home Shield that they would only send top quality companies to our home to resolve issues (lie #1). Our A/C has gone out so I got on the American website and requested service, upon receiving the email confirmation I researched the company that was scheduled to come out. They were to send the least not top quality according to the BBB and were in fact a ripoff from what I was reading.
I contacted American to resolve the issue and request for a different contractor to come out, no matter of explaining would get through to the very nice lady (Lawanna) on the other end of the phone. She explained that there were simply no other contractors that could do the job in my area. Now Mind you I am in Canton, GA and the contractor was from Lawrenceville over an hour away (lie #2). So I picked up the phone, after cancelling the service request and my contract with them to get my A/C fixed by a good company and lo and behold it will be fixed tomorrow but wait no one was available hmmm. Bottom line up front DO NOT use this company. I would go with Choice Home Warranty, the price per month is cheaper, the service fees are lower and the best kicker of all I can use my own contractors.

Contacted AHS 3 days ago (Thu) about no hot water, the first contractor didn't contact me, I called them to learn it would be 2 weeks to get it LOOKED at. So I called AHS for another contractor, which took 10 min to find a "maybe" but out of state... He didn't call and I couldn't get to anyone (left a message). Called AHS 3rd time (was told on 2nd call that if he is not able to get there today, I should call back to ask AHS for "outside authorization" - Gail said this who, doesn't work again until Monday)... Tried that today and after 20 min. and being put on hold by agent, was disconnected. Then called back... 12 min got agent, told I need to wait 48 hours for 2nd contractor to reach me.
I requested to talk to a supervisor and was told "they will just tell you what I already told you" and "you will probably have to wait a while as we are receiving a high volume of calls". I said I'd wait so I can get someone else to explain when I'm able to get anyone ASAP (since I already got 2 different stories from 2 agents). So she ("E.J.") put me on hold. She checked in with me after 3 min on hold (about 24 min. into whole call), then I said, "Yes, I'd like to wait for a supervisor..." Then guess what happened... (see other bad reviews for a hint!)... Yes, I was disconnected at 30 min. (2nd time today.)
I'm sure a "supervisor" will reply to this and tell me "how sorry they are for my experience" and to "contact them to clear things up"! Better yet, AHS supervisor, look up my email from my 2 calls today around 4pm (Maumee, OH) and EMAIL me directly with your direct phone number or how to reach you rather than posting a meaningless response here that only requires me to call back again to be put on hold and/or disconnected. For a company with "award winning" reviews and reputation, this is far from those experiences! If it was for a dishwasher or microwave, I understand a little delay... but hot water is pretty important in most households! Please help me get this fixed ASAP!!! FYI - on BBB, AHS has over 90 complaints within the last 9 days... (since Aug 31, 2018). That about says it all.

I am fed up with AHS! I called two times last night because my A/C is out and it was almost 90 degrees in the house. The first time I called they said they were going through a system update and took my information and issue with a promise to call me back within 30 minutes to expedite my request. Two hours later I call back and immediately, without any sort of greeting or questions, am told there is system is updating and I should call back tomorrow - effectively trying to end the call without me saying ONE word! I made that individual take my information too. I asked if I could put in an expedited request online, and they said now it had to be on the phone but he too was noting it needed to be expedited. I was again promised a callback. I called again today, THIRD CALL, and was told they could not expedite my request because it was not over 105 outside.
It's "only" projected to be 93. I pointed out that if it is 93 outside it will be hotter in my house and I had kids, but she said no there was nothing they could do. This was frustrating because if I had known that I could have schedule my service request online after the first call. I asked to speak to a manager, she asked why I needed to speak to a manager so for the third time in just my phone call with her I told her about my frustrations with the service I had received. She kept trying to stop me from talking to a supervisor or manager and when I insisted she put me on hold and within in seconds they being put on hold they ended the call. Yes they hung up on me. The website says they want our feedback, but it's only information to put in a service request and a link to their FAQ. As others have said, this is the worst customer service I have received. I would encourage no one to do business with them. I will not be continuing my contract. They are a joke!

The company uses a lot of tactics to avoid paying out for anything beyond a minor repair. I've had AHS officials try to get a repairman to lie about things so they could argue it was a pre-existing condition, I've dealt with hour-long phone calls, constant disconnects and terrible customer service, I've even had repairs done improperly. The key is to be persistent and never allow them to push you around. Ultimately, I've had two AC units fixed or replaced, a water heater and other minor things. Our AC unit stopped cooling the Friday before Labour Day. The first contractor came out the following Tuesday, diagnosed the problem and turned it into AHS. After never hearing from them we made several phone calls that Thursday, a 30 minute hold or more on each call. We find out that we have to pay $1,765 out of our pocket to put a bandaid on the unit. $840 for Freon, $275 for duct modification, and $525 for some code permits, $1”0 service call. While we knew about the Freon because it’s in the contract, the other costs are part of the installation.
We called back for a cash out option because we thought for that amount of money we could get a new more efficient non Freon unit. The customer service person laughed at us on the phone. Yes she laughed at us and told us they would pay us $800, what they were paying for the new HVAC unit. All three specialists that accessed the situation said that AHS is known to be deceptive.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

But once I got through, making the claim was not difficult. The contractor who came out was good. As soon as they figured out what the problem was, they seemed to be knowledgeable and they wanted to address the issue as quickly as possible. They had to get some approval from Home Shield first, but once they scaled that hurdle, they were able to come out and get the job done. After around four days, my air conditioning was repaired completely.
A thing about Home Shield though, there seemed to be additional fees involved, which I’m not always aware of, and sometimes those fees can be pretty substantial as well. It would be good to know about this upfront and for Home Shield to be a little better in mitigating the cost of those fees. The fee could start going into the thousand and then the impression is it kinda defeats the purpose of why I have insurance in the first place. Other than that, American Home Shield is a service one would want to have and I’ll recommend them.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. One was for broken garage door chain and the other was the garbage disposal that was not working, but they replaced it with a machine with the motor and it now works fine. I submit claims on the phone since I'm not very good in submitting in online. It's easy to do because they answer my phone. Sometimes, it takes little longer and I have to be on phone for 10 minutes before somebody talks to me, with the music on. That is the only other inconvenient thing, but other than that, it's fine.
And then normally, when the thing goes back, it happens on a weekend. That's not in their official hour, 8:00 to 5:00 on Monday to Friday. So naturally, it is hard to get people to come and do the job. Normally, they cannot do the job most folks like a plumber or electrician who are not available on the weekends. They usually give us a time. Whoever I talk to, they also give them the group's number, so we call them sometimes too.
Aces Garage Door was nice and very professional. They did a good job. They're fast in deciding the issue. There was once when they said, "We have to order for these parts." They usually order the parts through Amazon or somewhere. My wife called them because it has a lifetime warranty. She called for the chain and then they delivered the chain to our house, and then Aces Garage Door guys came in and installed it. They came with the $75. The guy got his fee and finally did the job. The garbage disposal was a separate equipment. They ordered from here, they came Monday, and said they are going to order a very similar one that I had. They brought the parts with them.
They changed the motor fan a few months ago. The fan motor of the air condition went off. But whoever AHS contacted came and told us to change the whole system. I said, "No. This is a new house. Why should we change the whole system?" I asked them what the issue was and they said the motor was the main issue. I then told them to fix the main issue and if it continued to bother us, then we'll call AHS again to fix other things. But as soon as they put the motor, everything worked fine. Whatever they send, if they pinpoint the issue, they should fix that and not advertise for the air condition. They make good definition and that is what we should get. That was beyond the scope. But AHS did their job and I'm satisfied 100%.

When I called AHS, they said they didn’t know if the payment went to the first one who did not do this work or the second people. Now, I keep getting these updates saying that my bill is overdue. Then every time I call in to see what the problem is, they say that it’s straightened out. But a week or so later, I see a bill saying that it’s overdue again. One was for breaking in the locks and the other was for the two faucets that were leaking. I made a claim online and the process was simple. Plus, the time it took the contractor to come out was great and I was ecstatic. The contractor was great and everything worked out perfectly. If you don’t get AHS, you’re crazy.

One day I was standing in the kitchen and all of a sudden water came out from underneath the sink on to the floor. There was an issue with the piping underneath the kitchen sink. I called American Home Shield and told them that there was something loose. Sometimes we can basically reattach a part but I didn't wanna flood my kitchen when I drain my sink. So I told them to send somebody, and they were really prompt. And within the next day or two, a plumber from Mr. Rooter came out. My husband was here during the service and he said it was really pleasant. The repair took half an hour. The problem was fixed and it has been fine ever since. It was excellent.
We had a second claim with American Home Shield. We have a Jenn-Air Cooktop, which is one of those flat cooktops that has three different sections. After we moved in, we figured out that there was a downdraft. The switch on the built-in exhaust fan was broken and the smooth cooktop did not work. We didn’t really realize it until after we had purchased the home. So we called American Home Shield and the people from Swift Electric who were sent out here were amazing and responsive. The gentleman said he fixed the smooth cooktop and he engaged it again but then the red light that indicates that there is heat to the burner was permanently on. That was a safety concern because I always thought the burner was on when it was not. The good thing is those two burners are working again.
As for the switch for the downdraft, the technician found a replacement and he came out again but he got the wrong switch. This has been going since July 30th. The last time a tech came out was August 23rd and he was from Swift. I just wanted my stove to work, so I gave it another week because he said they would look for another switch. Then last Wednesday I spoke to the AHS rep, Javier. I asked him what was going on and what we had to do and he said they haven’t heard back anything from Swift Electric but he would check into everything and would call me back on Thursday. In the meantime, I also called Swift Electric and told them what the AHS rep said that Swift didn’t submit anything after their last visit. Swift said they surely submitted it on August 30th.
I waited for Javier but he didn’t call me back, so on Friday I called AHS’s regular customer service number. I had to leave a callback number because they were really busy and somebody called me back. But I was told to talk to their purchasing department. The AHS rep didn't explain why I needed to do that, so I left another callback number. They called me back but told me they couldn't help me and that I needed to talk to the other department. By that time on Friday, I was done and I thought I was gonna try it again on Monday. Then last night, I called AHS back to get an update of what was gonna happen. I talked to the rep, Wanda and she was literally condescending, insinuating that I wanted a new stove out of this whole thing. I didn’t know why she was compelled to talk to me in that manner because all I really wanted was my stove to work.
At that point, I really wanted them to replace the switch. If replacing my switch would fix the other switch, I would be totally fine with it. But Wanda said I had to wait for another five to seven days. She assured me that she would call me back next Monday and that was how we left it. Everything else has been totally pleasant but that was really not the customer service I was expecting last night. Swift Electric’s customer service couldn’t have been any nicer but that of American Home Shield, no. If it’s their policy that I wait five to seven days, I’ll be fine. I’ll wait. Now I’m just gonna sit here and wait and see if Wanda would call me back. If she doesn’t then I will call AHS again.
All the technicians or the service people that American Home Shield has sent out and that have showed up have been amazing. I’m not quite sure, however, what’s going on on their end with the customer service. I did research on the internet before our closing company picked them and I had read only good recommendations for American Home Shield so this whole stove thing has kind of thrown me a bit for a loop. Still, I’m not completely dissatisfied with them because so far it has not been that unpleasant of an experience. They have really tried until last Wednesday.

I contacted American Home Shield over the phone to have them send someone out for my refrigerator and their reps were very helpful and respectful. The contractors were good people, too. They were very pleasant. The refrigerator was working well after the first time they came out to fix it. However, they had to come back because I had another issue going on with it. Now, the refrigerator is fine. It was a great experience. American Home Shield is usually very timely and I would recommend them.

My dishwasher was filling up with water and I filed a claim for it. American Home Shield charged a $75 fee for a contractor to come out and look at the problem, which is paid not to the person who comes out but directly to the company. The contractor that they sent out was pretty good. He found that a small screw had fallen out from somewhere and it was clogging the drain. He fixed it very efficiently and I haven’t had a problem with it since.
A couple of years ago though, a technician did not do a very good job with our air conditioner. At that time, it was one unit but it has three zones and the technician said that there was only one zone and that he couldn’t repair the AC because it wasn’t put in right originally. He also said that the problem was the compressor but when we called someone else, we found that the problem was the capacitor, so the technician’s diagnosis was wrong. But most of the time, we’ve gotten good service from AHS. One time, we had a gas stove that wasn’t working well and they decided that it needed to be replaced. We had to pay part of the cost of the stove but that wasn’t a problem.

Our AC wasn't cooling as the capacitor on it had gone out. I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield and they said it was going to be a couple of days before somebody could come out. At the time, it was in like late July or August in Alabama. When I told the rep that, she told me to give her about an hour and she’d send me somebody else that day. She also said that if she couldn't, I could call somebody and AHS would just pay for it. In less, than an hour, AHS had somebody come out that day and fix my AC issue. All in all, the process was easy and AHS helped out the whole way. The technician was great too and we're very thankful to have the warranty instead of having to pay full price for the service.

American Home Shield's website is good but they should put some place in there where you could put a preference on the assigned contractor. I had a problem with my pool a year ago and they sent out a contractor. When the cooling generator in my pool wasn't working this time around, American Home Shield assigned the order to a different contractor, but they never followed through. I had to call American Home Shield back and they had to reassign it to a different contractor. That was when I requested to use the previous contractor that we had who did a good job. AHS went ahead and had the previous contractor come out and they took care of it.
One thing that I have noticed with other warranty issues and repairs that was included with AHS is that there are times where the contractor has to come out twice in order to get the issue resolved. When the contractor comes out to repair the issue, they’ll say the needed part and they have to get authorization from AHS. Once they get the authorization, then they come back out the second time with the part. If AHS had a way of giving immediate authorization for the parts because the contractor had it with them, but they couldn’t install the part until they had authorization. So they had to make two trips and had to wait, which delayed the repair.

Having American Home Shield gives me a cushion from catastrophic, unexpected expenses. Their service is just not necessarily what they project on TV commercials because they make it look like if the appliance is not serviceable, they will replace it. From my past experiences, one of my biggest problems with them is the fact that they would have someone try to fix things and then they would stand by. I had a stove that went out and I wound up buying a new one for my home, but they only wanted to offer me a few dollars to replace it. It got so frustrating that I just gave up on it.
The only way to submit a claim nowadays is over the computer because anytime I try to call it in, I have a lot of trouble like being put on hold forever. The people that represent them on their phone lines are always very nice, but it always seems like there are certain things that they cannot do. But I usually don’t have a problem with the contractors. Service Mechanical fixed my washing machine and they were very good. Overall I use American Home Shield a lot and though I recommend them, there is room for improvement.

My air-conditioner was not blowing cold air. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone and it was easy. We did the air-conditioner twice and we weren't here the first time but our interaction with the first guy over the phone was good. The second time, we were home and the contractors came out to look at it, then they gave us some estimate on what it was gonna cost. The heating company wanted to charge us a lot more, so we got back to AHS. Several times, we asked for an adjustment that the amount was not right.
My agent contacted a lady she knew and this lady took care of things. After a week, of dealing with it, the lady called us and took care of it and adjusting the price to a lower price was done right away. The heating and air-conditioning company wouldn't order the part though until I send the signed papers in. So, I did that and it was difficult for me to do that. We don't have internet and to sign these papers was in DocuSign, so I had to get these papers copied through with my daughter-in-law, sign them, take pictures and then send them over to the heating company. Then, the heating company rep came back saying that I had to sign the old paper that was for the larger amount. I just took a picture and said that I wasn’t gonna sign the paper and I haven't heard from her since.
Trying to get a hold of AHS was very difficult as well. When I’d finally get somebody, he would say that I have the wrong person and that I needed to get to another person. This happened a lot. My husband did it too and this has been going on for a couple of weeks until he finally got the right person. But, overall, we had a good experience with American Home Shield and I'd recommend them.

I routinely do a few things with my AC. One is maintenance and I make sure my filters are clean. Then, I routinely have a company come out and they do my fall furnace check. They make sure if things are good for the winter. They also come out in the spring and do my air conditioning check and they make sure everything is okay. The tech came out and said that I had a problem and that I needed to look at it. I was shocked and there was water running everywhere. It rusted everything out and it was a mess. He showed me something and he said that it was broken. I told him that before he fix it for me, I was gonna call American Home Shield and see what they can do for me. He said okay and that he was gonna stop right there where we were at and if I needed him to do anything, I could call him and he could come back.
I called American Home Shield and put in an order to have someone come out. The techs called me and told me when they would be here. They showed right up and introduced themselves as who they were. I said that I've noticed the water leaking and that I wanted them to come downstairs and show them where all it was leaking. He understood perfectly well once he looked at everything and touched everything, and it was fine. I took him to where the furnace was and he knew immediately what was going on. They said it was my coil and that it was a big mess. They replaced the coil and the leak stopped.
They also checked the air conditioner outside. They took care of everything. They disposed the old mess and put in the new and he said that American Home Shield was not gonna pay for ductwork. I also looked at my contract and it said that AHS did not cover it. The unit has been fine since the repair. I was happy to get it fixed for the amount I got it fixed for. American Home Shield stood behind on what they said they were gonna do. I knew what was going on when I got into it and everything was fine. I've been satisfied with them. I've had this service for quite a few years and I got my neighbors into it, too.

There was a flexibility and I liked that. Then, I paid my $75 co-pay through the person who helped me. I've been with American Home Shield for several years now. We have two properties with AHS, our home and a rental. Submitting a claim to them has been good which I almost always do online. We had one contractor that we had terrible experiences with. He overstepped boundaries because he got in here and he started telling me about all the problems he’s had with his ex-wife, and he didn’t wanna fix the problem. Also, I’ve had problems with his work because it was never repaired correctly. I don’t want him on my property anymore. In fact, every time I request AHS for somebody I'd tell them not to send those people. I would like it though if they would put a note in their system.
On the other hand, Wooley, the contractor in this town that AHS sent out has been wonderful. They have the highest ethics and they send out the hardest-working people that really want to solve the problems. And the people that AHS has sent to our rental, which is in Arizona, have generally been good. My overall experience with AHS has been excellent and I have recommended them to several people.

Meanwhile, late winter and I do not know a lot of folks who can deal without hot water for 3 days. We called them back and was told nobody in our region was authorized to do the repair in Northeast South Carolina, So we opted to call ourselves.
Called gas company and immediately had a list of names of qualified and certified contractors to take care of our issue. Nobody ever called us back, we had to call them. This was a week later. We actually called them to find out how to get reimbursed for what we spent and were told we would only be reimbursed a portion of what it cost. This happened 2 years ago, but I get annoyed seeing the commercials on how they are there for you and for peace of mind. Just like aftermarket warranty companies for your vehicle.

I am a property manager and unfortunately a lot of our clients have their maintenance covered through AHS. They have extremely poor communication, deny claims for bogus reasons and don't watch their own vendors. We have been trying to get a leak fixed for over 2 months and the only time we get answers is when we call. The last plumber stated he did not know what the problem was. Really? By the way this is the second plumber who has been out there and after 3 holes cut in the ceiling they still have not repaired anything nor diagnosed the leak. The latest information is that there is an AC leak. So far we have been told it was tiles leaking, a tub drain leaking, and AC and still have not had a repair done. One of the plumbers was even kind enough to remove the toilet and leave it in the bathtub for us.
After we had to call back of over a week of the toilet in the tub they did let us know one thing, the toilet was not leaking. This is only one of many experiences I am fortunate enough to have being in the property management business. We have complained and voiced our opinion about their vendors to no avail. They do not care. All we get are excuses and the run around. Currently they are recalling the plumber who advised me that it was the AC line, while speaking with AHS they advised that it was a tub assembly that the plumber replaced, their communication with their own vendors does not even line up. Again, this is one of many instances.
We discourage anyone from getting AHS as you have to keep in mind they are a business not a charity and are in the business to make money not repair your items for a service call. I hope this review finds a homeowner who will not be taken by their empty promises and chooses to save their own money. Another thing, as I have over 1000 properties in our management and hundreds of service calls through AHS annually I can tell you I have never once seen them replace an AC, they will band aid it until they blame you for the problem and advise you it's not covered. Water heaters, they will replace those but only with an $850 "code upgrades " and that's after you have to pay your service call. I promise you I can find a hundred plumbers who will replace a water heater for $850.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The compressor of one of the two units in question went out and there was a specific process that the contractor had to go through to get AHS to approve to make the repairs. We submitted the claim on a Friday night and the contractor was out on Monday to assess it. The contractor didn’t get their approval until around Thursday morning. In situations like that, especially where we live wherein the weather was in the hundreds during the day and high 80s and low 90s at night time, it was quite miserable and waiting for American Home Shield to approve that repair took longer than what it should.
I wish that they would consider the contracts that they have in place and have to offer. It would be nice to have someone that would be able to fix things during the weekend in case of emergency. I would even pay extra for that service and be able to get after-hours service as opposed to the straight-up Monday through Friday business hours. I would be more than willing to pay extra for that service to have that peace of mind to know that the very next day, someone could be on site to resolve the problem. Nevertheless, the contractor did a fantastic job and the AC units have had no problems since then. AHS is always responsive and I would recommend them.

I self-cleaned my oven and it stopped working so I had someone come out and repair that. I just logged on and pushed a couple of buttons. My credit card was safe so I didn't have to go find my wallet. It took almost a week and a half before technicians came. The initial people never showed up, and then the second company AHS referred us out to didn't work on my type of oven. But when the third person got the information to come out, they called right away. They followed up and let me know when they were coming. The guy showed up a couple minutes early, which was great because I was on a time constraint. He did a really good job. It ended up being a wire had gotten too hot. The contractors that showed up were very respectful, professional. I'm very happy with American Home Shield. I've already recommended them on Facebook, to my friends.

The AC wasn’t cooling at first and AHS sent Greenway Home Services to fix it. They determined that the coil was the problem. We saw it and it was clearly the issue. The air conditioning would be fine but over the next three weeks, we got zoned air. In one room, we would have it set at a reasonable temperature, but, all of a sudden, it would be 77 or 78 degrees in there. However, in the kitchen and the extra room, that is on the same unit, it would still be working.
We had to have Greenway come out again and they said that the coil that they replaced was too good for our unit, so in order to bypass how they needed it to work, what we needed to do was to make sure that at least two rooms stayed at the same temperature. That was not really repairing the problem. That was just telling me how to counteract it. Anyway, we did not move them for four days. All three stayed at 73 degrees and then all of a sudden the one room was 78 degrees again. It was nonsense. They had to come back 11 times.
We can control the AC, but you can’t control how quickly it cools. Again they came out and this time the guy said that the reason that it was not working was I was only running one thermostat off a three-thermostat zone board. He told me to turn all of them off before he got there and he proceeded to argue with me and tell me that I was only running one. He came back out and said that they needed to replace the zone board. They replaced it and, again, we got to Friday, Saturday or Sunday and the two rooms were fine but the one room was on 77 or 78 degrees and it was hot.
My electric bills were $250 more all summer because they couldn’t get it fixed. I had called American Home Shield every single time to report that there has been another issue. Greenway couldn’t come back out until they had the order from American Home Shield. They had to have a reroute number or a redo number. I even asked them if they can send somebody else out here because all Greenway was doing was waste their time. I did not even feel like Greenway was trying until I started getting belligerent and ugly with them. I also told AHS how unhappy I was.
They said that they could send somebody else out here, but if that company said that the same thing that was wrong with it was that Greenway said, I would have to pay another $100 fee. It was ridiculous and I was not gonna pay another $100 fee. Then the last time Greenway came out, they sent somebody else out and the dude said that the damper was bad. It seems to have worked and I haven’t had any problems in about three weeks since they’ve been out and had the damper replaced.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good and bad. My water heater kept going off continuously. I had to reset it and turn it back on and sometimes, it will last for a couple of days. It's a gas water heater so that makes me nervous to be resetting it constantly. I explained my concerns to the guy that came out initially and he was super nice. He replaced that part and within three weeks, it started malfunctioning. He told me he's gonna replace the pipe which I had already replaced with the water heater while it was under warranty. I told him that and he said to replace it again and see if that goes well. He also said that if that doesn't work, then it's the water heater that needs to be replaced.
But he's gone and I don't know if he no longer works with the company so AHS sent another guy. When the other tech came, my son had reset the water heater and it was working. The tech said that there's nothing wrong and he can't do anything about it. He said to leave it off when it goes off. The problem with that is he can't come right away and it takes a couple of days for them to reschedule. I also can't leave the water heater off and we have no hot water. He then told me the company can give me an allowance and I can replace the water heater. He quoted me close to $1,000 for an upgrade that I probably don't need.
I've also been without an AC for a week now but thankfully, it's been raining. The tech came out the next day but apparently, the compressor burned out completely. The tech said the compressor needed to be replaced and he had to place an order. He quoted me $1,048 upgrade. Plus, American Home Shield may pay $10 for Freon but I have to pay $60 or $70 per liter. The tech also said it takes five to seven days but it's already been seven days today but they haven't called. I'm okay with a fan but my son is not and he's staying with my parents. My parents have AHS as well. Something happened to their water heater, too and somebody came out and fixed it.
I thought the whole point of paying this AHS insurance is so I don't have to worry about those things. If they're covered, then great but if they're not, then I totally understand that I didn't choose that combo program. But I have the combo and I have everything supposed to be covered. I didn't realize that I was still gonna have to come up with $1,000 to $1,500 to replace my water heater. Also, they're not replacing my AC. They're replacing the compressor but the other tech that came out said he'd recommend that they replace the AC because the compressor is very expensive. It was obvious that there was something going on and the AC is no longer working properly so it can burn again.
But the companies that AHS hire obviously want to make their money and they always quote me an upgrade. I called my brother-in-law and he told me about this guy who fixed his ACs. I called this guy and he said my compressor did go out and that if I had AHS or any other home insurance, they're always going to quote an upgrade so I ended up paying the same thing. I'm thinking I'm gonna get rid of AHS.

My air conditioner wasn’t working and I called in a claim with American Home Shield. Most of the time all I get is just the automated machine. Depending on what time of day it is, I might get a response - a text or email from them saying that it has been turned over to the contractor, and in that case, Myers. Most of the time Myers call the next day. There’s also been some days where it’s just been hot and unbearable for me so I just call them myself.
Jonathan has been the one that I’ve seen more often than anybody else and he has been cool with me. He handles everything and lets me know what’s going on. He explains to me answers to any questions that I have. Since the repair the air conditioner has been fine. American Home Shield proved to be valuable. As far as being a single woman and trying to find somebody to repair stuff, it’s kinda taken that little guesswork out of some things. I don’t have to call around my own self about somebody coming in. I like American Home Shield. My sister enrolled in it because I told her about it.

However, the repair hasn't been completed yet since the part just came the day before yesterday but I got a call from American Home Shield and they told me that the contractor would be up tomorrow to finish the job. I also had a plumbing issue and I had to come back in and do the next claim. It might be nice if they would make it to where you can actually file multiple claims at one time. Also, I had to wait until the following for the tech to come out for the AC but he was friendly and very knowledgeable when he did. He has been doing this for a while because he knew exactly what was wrong and he cleaned it out. Everything has been fine with the AC since the repair.

We had a leak in the garage and we thought it was a condensation line that was broken from the air conditioner out to drain outside. We called American Home Shield and a tech came and looked at everything. He went up into the attic and said that it was working all right. He also said that it was a lot of work coming to our house and that I needed to call back American Home Shield, so we did. I called and said that I had the electrician, but it was a plumbing issue. They sent over a girl from Hers & His Plumbing and she looked at it and said that the problem was our waterline coming into our house. She said that she couldn't do anything about it. She'd have to chop a big hole in our wall. She added that she would come back the next day, but I would have to call American Home Shield and get the authorization. I waited a couple of days, but nothing happened.
I called American Home Shield again and they sent over a master plumber. He found the problem and said that he was not gonna take apart our wall from outside and that he would take it in from inside, then I could tape it up afterward. He was courteous, nice and he did a great job. The experience was fantastic. Whenever I speak to a rep, they try to figure out how and who the best is to get there and take care of me. I love American Home Shield and we are renewing our policy. I’ve referred them to other people and have been telling people that it is a service that is worthwhile.

I was outrageous for not only the service is slow, but the contractor they provide is so irresponsible without even the courtesy to call in advance. Had an issue with our AC unit and called American Home Shield. They sent out a service repair company that filled the refrigerant and the AC was fixed, so we thought. A few months had passed and our AC was down again. Called AHS again for service and they sent out a different company than before. This company found a leak in the coil, which they believed was old based on the oil surrounding the hole. They wanted to add refrigerant again, but believed that the first company should come back out since they missed the leak. AHS only covers the first 10%, so each fill of refrigerant is $500 plus. I'm just confused on why I'm at fault for AHS failures with choosing a contractor.
Currently I've paid $50/month for service, $200 in service calls, $500 in refrigerant and still have a broken down AC unit. Still AHS wants me to pay another 500 to refill it again. So why do I have a warranty if I'm paying out this much money??? I have an angry wife that works from home and small children in a home that is reaching almost 90 degrees inside. Warranties are thrown around these days that are not paid out, but will take your monthly dues.

They need to first figure out how to not have people on hold for 30 plus minutes. Anytime I need to speak to someone, it is a 30 min hold. I tried to contact them in regards to a contractor they assigned for a job. He was rude, uncooperative and not helpful. I wanted the job canceled, I did not want him in my home. The representative I was chatting with online, it is quicker than being on hold, when it is available, canceled the plumber I had coming. I took the day off to wait for the plumber. The appointment was still showing on my web page.
I called and they said the warranty company canceled. I called and was put on hold, so I called billing. She then wanted to put me on a hold for a minimum of 30 mins. I then told her I wanted to cancel. That got me to someone quickly. He rectified the issue, but now I must wait for the plumber from 12-5, when I had it set for 8-10 am. I also had a dr appt in the afternoon that I had to cancel because they messed up. Once my contract is up I will NOT renew with them and I will NOT recommend them to anyone.

This is without a doubt the worst service that I have ever received. I'll be looking for a new insurance company when this is finished. This company certainly has no problem with receiving their monthly premium on time every month, but when you have a serious problem they act like it's no big deal. I'm stressed to the max without a refrigerator, it almost makes doing any type of cooking impossible. I've shed tears over this and it's not over yet. I should've just paid for the extended warranty on the frig, at least it would've been fixed about four weeks ago. Completely unacceptable treatment of a customer.

We bought a house that used American Home Shield quite frequently and it’s really very convenient. In one particular issue, there was a Freon leak in my air conditioning. I submitted a claim online and it was very helpful. It’s one of the pluses for the service I've used. However, while talking with the contractor, it turned out that I won't be eligible for.
What happened was, I had a company that I had used last year when I first bought the house. And they came out and checked my heating and air conditioning unit. Everything was working okay, except I did have a Freon leak. However, I made a mistake of having them put the Freon in and then what I was gonna do was call AHS and then have someone come out and fix the leak. Before I called, I read my contract and it occurred to me that would be something that they would be responsible for, but then, the contractor assured me that it wasn’t. Their rep said that if I would not have had the other company fill it, that they would’ve come out. But because I had somebody else do it, I basically negated their responsibility.
I would have called AHS to double check, but one negative thing about them is it's almost impossible to talk to anybody on the phone. As a matter of fact, I had a situation where I had to call to schedule something and I was probably on the phone for at least 45 minutes before I was able to talk to somebody. And then they went ahead and scheduled it with a contractor that I had never heard of before. When I went online, I found out that the contractor that they were going to use got terrible reviews on Yelp and the people who gave the reviews said that they had to use this particular contractor, because they were referred by their home warranty. I went online to try to cancel and not only could I not make the appointment online, but I also couldn’t cancel it as well. So I had to wait again and talk to somebody.
When the lady answered the phone, I could tell that she had just been overwhelmed all day for whatever reason. She sounded really stressed out. She told me that they don't pay attention to reviews and then told me that if I don’t like the service when they come out, then we’ll deal with it at that point. So I canceled the sales call and then the person told me that I had to call back AHS to cancel it. That took me another attempt to try to get through and it was a very long wait. The call got even dropped so it was very frustrating. It got taken care of but it wasn’t fine.
In addition to that, the contractors say one thing and the home warranty company says it doesn’t. I had a plumbing issue and the plumber came out and he fixed the issue with the toilet downstairs. When the plumber was about to fix the issue upstairs, he called his dispatcher and the dispatcher said that they were only called there for one issue. I wasn’t aware that if I had two toilets, I was gonna have to pay $75 for each toilet and that wasn’t explained. I thought and my understanding was, if the plumber showed up, he would fix what was wrong. However, I had an electrician that came out and he fixed everything. I had four different problems and he checked them all and fixed them. Despite these, I did renew my warranty and I did a little research and came up with the best and American Home Shield was rated number one.

They said they were gonna order parts and it took almost four weeks for it to come in. We have a babysitter that had asthma problems and it took them a long time to come around to do it. Then when they came out to do it, they claimed that it's fixed. But then, two days later, it's the same issue again. My wife talked to AHS and they got the contractors to come back out there. American Home Shield called back and talked with us, but we were told that the particular ductwork was not in our coverage. They sent somebody else out and that company found that it was just a clogged line. After the repair has been made, the AC has been working fine. The AC upstairs did the same thing and got fixed too.
The contractors who American Home Shield has been sending out were nice and friendly. There was one company, though, that had rescheduled but never came. Somebody else came, yet that company still got paid. My roommate is still talking with American Home Shield about that as she is trying to find out why didn’t the company that actually did the work got the check. But other than that, I’m fine with American Home Shield. I’d recommend them.

I have an online app and it is very easy to file claims through that. I get an automatic response that says someone would contact me from a certain place within 48 hours. That comes in via text to me almost immediately as soon as I submit the claim. But normally, I would call the contractor after I get off the phone and I would set up the appointment because it’s very rare that they would actually reach out and call. Despite that, the appointment is rather quick. But when the contractors go out there, ordering parts would take three or four days then them trying to schedule a follow-up appointment after that sometimes would take weeks.
Going without a dishwasher for two weeks is not okay for my renters. And the AC is the biggest problem. I don’t like to let those wait more than 48 hours, especially in the summer. Then for other things, I really don’t like to wait more than a week for parts to be ordered and for a repair to be done. Another problem is the communication between all the situations. If I have a renter who's not gonna be able to be home, the contractor would have to call me 30 minutes before they get there because I don’t live there. But normally, they would forget, go out to the house and knock on the door but nobody would be there and they would leave a notice.
So there’s a breakdown between the people who make the appointment over the phone and the actual technicians who are out at the house. That’s the biggest issue that I’ve ever had. It wastes a lot of time too. If I’m driving out for an appointment and they don’t end up showing up, that’s an issue too. Most of the contractors are very good though. I have four properties that I have an American Home Shield plan on and all the recent claims have been all closed out.

It wouldn’t stay shut. We had to take some cardboard, make a doorstop and put it underneath the front of the door to keep the drawer from sliding forward. CTG Enterprises came out and looked at what was wrong and ordered the parts. When the parts came in, they installed it and we haven’t had any problems since.
American Home Shield has been really good to us. I submit my claims over the phone and I've used their automated system and have spoken with a representative as well. However, one time, we were trying to get a hold of them, but they were having trouble with their computers, so we were on hold for about 50 minutes. They told us that they would get back to me. The next day, we got a hold of them and they said that there was something going wrong with their computers and that wasn’t normal for them.
We also had a problem with the contractor sent out when they were dealing with fixing our washing machine. The guy that came out and looked at the machine and told us that it was gonna be more expensive to repair it than what it was worth. He said that we needed to get a new washing machine. He was really good. However, the guy that delivered the new washing machine didn’t know what he was doing when it came to setting up the hose that comes out the back to the washing machine. He didn’t know that the hose had to be up in the air at the height of the drum, so it didn’t work properly. I called him less than a half hour after he installed it because I was trying to do some laundry and the machine was making a God-awful noise. He came back, but he couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
They ordered us another new washing machine and it was a different guy that delivered it, and he installed it properly. He knew what he was doing and everything has been working just fine. Everybody has been great, except for the first delivery guy. American Home Shield is a good plan and it’s affordable. Right now, we’ve gotten our money’s worth and as long as they keep doing things in a timely fashion and keep solving the problems like they have, we’ll continue to be happy.

American Home Shield is the best warranty company that I've worked with. When we had an AC issue, I submitted the claim online at 1 o'clock in the morning and by 8:30 the next morning, we already had a call from the HVAC company. Then they were out by 9:45. It was awesome. The contractor was a very nice person. He identified the issue within five minutes and had it all fixed in about an hour. It was a good experience.

Our freezer wasn’t freezing cold enough and the first guy AHS sent couldn’t fix the problem. He had to call AHS to tell them he couldn’t do it. After that AHS sent somebody else better-equipped and trained. He was very knowledgeable and he fixed it right away. I would recommend AHS. The realtor we used doesn't like AHS. She’s gathering names of other customers that she’s ran into that don’t like AHS and I told her, “I’ve used them for about nine years and I’m happy.”

It's very comforting to have a warranty. I submitted a claim for our ceiling fan that went out. I did it online and it was good and easy. The contractors were awesome and it took a day for them to come out. They heat check the previous ceiling fan and made sure it did have power going through it. It was not working correctly and they checked all the switches and everything. They tried to troubleshoot it and we were given some good recommendations. I'd highly recommend American Home Shield. It's been a very good experience with them compared to the previous company that I had.

I had a Whirlpool tub with a motor problem as well as an electrical issue to take care of. I also had a problem with the exhaust heater in our bathroom as well as a garage opener that wasn't really opening. I called American Home Shield to file claims for those. I work with their contractors who arrive and I support them. Oftentimes, they come and they're not able to complete a task by themselves. An extra hand always makes the job easier. The people they send are very well-trained individuals so it's easy to work with them.
Currently, I'm waiting for the garage door opener repair to be completed. I've called a couple of times to follow up on it. It looks like AHS is telling people to get in but then I get emails saying that they're looking for a payment. So, I gave them a credit card up front because they changed the payment system such that I'm not paying the provider but paying American Shield directly instead. Nevertheless, their providers are very good. I'm very pleased with the workmen especially the group that took care of Whirlpool tub. I've had them a number of times and they're excellent. They've taken care of my problems and I haven't been disappointed.

Our air conditioning quit and it wasn’t having any cold air or anything. I called the claim in to American Home Shield and their rep was fine. A-1 Professional Heating got out to me in a day and a half. The tech looked at our thermostat and then went out to the air conditioning. He took the back off, checked some stuff out, and bypassed a backup switch. It worked which we needed because it was one of the hottest days of the year. But it's making really loud cranking noise and the tech said he was gonna get a part and bring it back in a week. We have not heard from him but we're hoping that they would do right about it, come back out, and put that part on. I always recommend American Home Shield for anybody that gets a house. They need a warranty on it and AHS has always been there for us when we needed them.

I scheduled a service online with American Home Shield and they sent Precision Door. They worked on my garage door as well as changed locks for me. Both the garage door repairman and the locksmith did fine, and everything was on point. I've always had good luck with the contractors that AHS had sent me. They called before they came, they were on time and were helpful. Everything seems to be exactly as I expect it to be. Also, the AHS reps have been great. Having AHS gives me the peace of mind. Whenever I have an issue, I can just call them and they will find a contractor for me then send them out and the job gets done. That is better than having to call around and wonder if I'm gonna get screwed by some contractor. I would definitely recommend them.
Good morning Brandy,
Your feedback regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience is greatly appreciated. I filed a claim for an AC issue with American Home Shield. Our house was very hot so I wanted to check the unit and see if the unit was working properly. The contractor who came out to fix the AC was from Crystal Air Incorporated. He was great. They weren’t gonna replace the unit, but he got the unit working fine. He solved the problem and they had to put some air vents into the attic. That would help a lot.

My AC wasn't working and I had to call to submit a claim as I couldn’t do any request online. They said that I owed money in my account, but I didn’t. They said they had taken that out, but it hadn't. It was frustrating but other than that, it was fine. The representatives were pretty nice and they try to get here as soon as possible. David Weckar Heating and Air came out and was amazing and really good.
The problem I have with American Home Shield is that when there's an emergency, they have to go through a process that prevents it to be taken care of quickly. I couldn’t renew my account for the rental because of that. I can wait, but my renters can't. I need to have someone that I can call right away if something happens. Another thing is that the wait to speak to somebody is always like an hour, so calling is completely inconvenient. Still, I'm gonna renew AHS for my house where I'm living in.

The bath tub drain in my mobile home has not stopped, but it's very, very, very slow. The guy from His & Hers Plumbing that AHS sent out found evidence of kitty litter in it. He used chemicals and hand snips by hand to clear it out but nothing worked. He said there wasn't a trap. The drain just went down and made a right turn. They wanted to charge me $500 to try to go into the drain. They said the problem was there even before I bought the contract which I guess it was and they said that they don't cover foreign objects. I told them I wasn't gonna do it and I had intended to change out that plastic tub for a full size shower and I'll just have it fixed at that time. And, the guy smelled so bad that I couldn't wait for him to get out.
I also had AHS sent someone out before because the brain to my stove seemed scrambled. The contractor looked at it and said that I needed a new control panel and then he left. Three days after that, a friend of mine came over and looked at my stove. He noticed that the outlet that the stove was plugged into was cracked and it was grounding out. He fixed the outlet so I just wasted out $75 for the contractor. A month later, the contractor called me. I just waited to see how long it would take them to get back to me and it has been a little more than a month. When I read the AHS advertisement, it seemed clear to me at that time that it didn't matter if your problem arose from lack of maintenance, it would still be covered. Apparently, that is not the case and their phone system is almost impossible to figure out.

I am not very happy with American Home Shield! As our garage door openers do not work. The contractor came out and said yes both garage door motors need replaced! He told the insurance company that they both needed replaced. As one of the garage door openers was missing an eye they decided to deny the claim because they labeled it as it was missing parts. Eye or no eye the motor doesn’t work! We have the complete package and it says motors and wires will be fixed! So I paid $75 for them to come and fix both garage doors but then AHS DENIED! I’m very frustrated about this warranty as we decided to try AHS and before we had a different company we loved! I’m hoping they will still come back and resolve this but right now they won’t help me and I’m still very frustrated!

As with all the bad reviews, mine is similar. The contractors AHS uses are crooks, but doesn’t seem to be much of a concern for AHS. Paid $75 for a service call where the contractor came out and drained the Freon out of my AC unit and then tells my wife there were over $5000 in repairs not cover by the warranty to get the unit operating correctly and it would take 10 days to obtain the parts to do the repairs. Parts required to bring the unit to code, which aren’t covered by the warranty. He even identified a float switch was require, even though there is one, he just spent that little effort to go behind the unit where it was installed.
The prices provided for all the parts were also ridiculous. $175 for a float switch, $95 for a pan, $75 for mastic, $700 for insulation... I don’t understand if a company is reputable, how they would even allow a contractor like this to be sent out. It is obviously not in AHS’s priorities to vet its contractors and ensure their customers are receiving top quality service. Buying a home warranty from AHS is definitely not worth the money.
Good evening Glenn,
I understand your concerns with the non covered cost to have your air conditioner system repaired through your AHS warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution to the issues.

Operates more like a scam than a genuine service. And we feel the home warranty was not reliable. We had several issues with our refrigerator and dishwasher after moving into our home. We paid the $75 fee to pay for the technician to assess. We had several visits from one technician who ordered parts, but never successfully completed the repair parts. They closed out the job but the problem continued. Then AHS wanted us to pay another fee for a new technician even though it was never fixed from the original call. After three different technicians and several fees, the refrigerator leak was fixed but the dishwasher was never repaired.
We think the philosophy is such that if they make you wait long enough you’ll give up on the warranty, and pay for it yourself. We had other issues as well where parts recovered but making the connections cost extra. Just beware, sometimes coverage, isn’t really coverage. Each time we had to call was a saga and highly unproductive. The bottom line is they don’t really want to have to pay or to replace.

I have had American Home Shield for 3 years now and not used them at all. Mainly because my home is on an island where practically no repair/maintenance companies participate with AHS. I recently had a refrigerator go out on me. They set me up an appointment with a company that never came out and would not respond to my calls. I told American Home Shield I was going to purchase a refrigerator myself as I had already gone a week without a working one. They told me that would be fine, a service person could come and evaluate the old one to see what they would pay in replacement fees. Great Right??? Not really. They informed me that I had to leave the old one in place until the technician could evaluate it. Yeah right. You want me to go another 3-4 days without a refrigerator, just so you can tell me that the compressor has indeed gone bad. I saved myself the hassle and did not pursue any further.
Now I have had my AC compressor go bad. The coils are badly rusted and have an oil residue on them. All of the Freon has leaked out multiple times prior. I call American Home Shield with the diagnosis from a reputable HVAC company in the area. They say that their technician will have to come out. I will be contacted within 4 hours by their dispatch team. The next morning after not receiving a call, I call in and get an outside authorization (This is normal process for me in Edisto as they either never call to schedule appt or make the appt and do not show). No company has time for their employees to sit on hold as they await approval from AHS so I suggest that call back and then 3 way my service tech in.
I get back on the phone with the authorization department, wait on hold for about 30 minutes, inform the AHS rep I was told that I could 3 way call my service rep. She informs that "No Sir, I will have to call". Fine. She calls and can't approve since he is stating that the unit needs to be replaced. It is 12 years old and at the end of its life due to the salt air from the beach. I was told that a manager would contact me back. I received a phone call from Total Air Care stating that I had an appointment scheduled for Monday. I found this strange and told them that I had already scheduled for my company to perform repairs.
I called back in to AHS and was told this company was coming to give a second opinion. I could not be reimbursed until their tech first looked at the unit. Well their tech is not going to be able to come until 5 days later. That is 5 days they expect me to go without AC just so they can tell me that the unit has reached the end of its life and repairs would outweigh the cost of replacement. American Home Shield will scratch and claw in order to not pay up. I would recommend avoiding at all cost.

My water heater went out on Aug 17 2018 and I called for service on 8/18/2018. AHS sent a plumber to my home who tried to tell me I needed an expansion tank and other items to make the water heater meet city code. All of the items he quoted I did not need as my existing parts all met code. The plumber’s estimate did not list or itemized the cost of labor and parts on his work order. When I asked him to give this information to me, he refused saying AHS would provide this information. I called AHS and they said they could not provide this information to me either. Meantime I called the city building and permit department to see if I needed an expansion tank and they told me I did not need that to meet code. But this plumber would not do the work without installing an expansion tank. I called AHS to tell them I did not want to use this plumber because he was trying to charge me for extra items I did not need.
I asked them to send out a second plumber for a second opinion. They said they would need to charge an additional 100.00 if the second plumber's opinion was the same. The second plumber's opinion was worse than the first plumber’s opinion. He wanted to charge me about $1,400.00 over and above the cost of the water heater for parts and labor I did not need.
Keep in mind my house is a fairly new house so all of the apparatus going to my water heater, (i.e. vents, pipes connections, etc) are all up to code. All I needed was for the water heater to be swapped out using the existing parts. Consequently, I called AHS and said I did not want to use their contractors because they were trying to ripped me off by charging me for labor and parts I did not need. They said they would do a cash in lieu. This means I could replace the water heater using my own contractor and they would pay me for the cost of the water heater only, (no labor, parts or permits) but it would take them some time to process my order to let me know how much they were going to pay me.
In the meantime my family needed hot water so I took the risk and went on and paid to have the water heater replaced myself. As of September 3rd AHS has still not told me how much they are going to pay me for the replacement of my water heater. Every time I call them, I get a different customer service associate who does not know what’s going on and I have to explain my problem to them all over again. They said my issue is being handled by their Options Department, who is suppose to be deciding how much cash in lieu I would get but they are backed log. They won't let me talk to this department and this department to date has not settled my claim. So far I have been waiting and calling them for 16 days. What if I did not have the money to replace the water heater on my own, I would have been without hot water, waiting on AHS for 16 days.
I am extremely unhappy with American Home Shield and to date have not been paid yet for the replacement of my water heater. I’m basically paying them 40.00 per month for this service for nothing. Also, when I finally do get paid according to the way their contract is written, they are not going pay me the same amount I paid for my water heater. As soon as I get this straighten out with them... I am canceling this service. It’s a rip off...

Chicago, IL. I suggest looking elsewhere for coverage, long story to follow. We purchased a 3x3 combo plan to cover home appliances and systems for peace of mind and my wife’s had AHS. Had to place a call as our system was not a selectable item on their online scheduling (clearly covered in our contract though, pressure regulator). After a 54 minute wait (late at night understandable) and multiple hold the customer service rep (Tao) told me it was our water pressure and not covered. Wow! This guy must be some plumber to diagnose a problem over the phone.
After being very obstinate and putting me on hold to keep checking something (and granted at this point I got a bit heated) he would not transfer me to a manager, said he could put me back on hold but could not guarantee someone would pick up. This is a serious issue as we cannot use water in our house because we do not really know what the problem is (we are not plumbers). Luckily my wife is a lawyer and the contract is clear, our customer service rep Tao must also be a lawyer because he kept telling us what was and wasn’t covered. We can understand if the plumber comes out and diagnoses a problem that isn’t covered (no plan will cover everything) but to dismiss the problem out of hand is very shady business.
Long story short we got AHS for the peace of mind any insurance offers, hoping to never have to use it and it couldn’t be less of the case. I would recommend avoiding this company for your home systems protections. I have dealt with companies customer service divisions here in the US and abroad and this is the only one that has ever spurred me to write a warning to fellow consumers. Please consider this if thinking about signing up for AHS.

Sorry for the long message as I never complete one of these. Due to my horrible experience I thought this needed to written. My wife and I have had AHS for ten years for two of our homes. Recently their service has become substandard. We called in an issue with our water heater in June for rental property. We took off work twice in order to meet a technician. The technician finally actually shows up on the second visit. He diagnosed the problem and the water required replacing. This took an additional four weeks after constantly calling and requesting an update.
Apparently AHS didn’t submit the order or the authorization was held up. Later we find the water heater was at the local department store and the vendor never picked it up. Week four it’s installed to only later find he did not connect the water heater correctly. This was found during a home inspection as we’re in the process of selling the rental home. So we have to wait another week for someone to come out and finally rework the issue.
I don’t recommend AHS anymore. We’ve to moved to another warranty company. If you like calling to speak with a AHS rep and waiting 30-45 mins for someone to pick up and when they finally do they’re not empathy to your issue nor willing to get it correct then this is warranty company for you. Oh don’t ask about the nonexistent escalation process. This requires is a formal document be completed and submitted. Bottom line your issue will be fixed but it could be weeks later. Kind of waste. I would also ask for another Plumbing company if AHS recommends Bass Plumbing. Good luck working with them.

It was the first time I made a claim for my air conditioner to American Home Shield. I submitted my claim over the phone. The contractor who was sent out here was polite. He fixed my air conditioner and made it on time. So far, I've been satisfied with AHS.

When my microwave stopped working I submitted my claim with American Home Shield by phone. AHS opened the request and somebody came, took a look and said they cannot fix the microwave so they initiated a replacement process, delivered the part and fixed it. It took almost more than a month to resolve the issue because of the time it took to release the equipment, but the contractor was good.
American Home Shield is good in terms of identifying the issue, but they assign to subcontractors who do not respond on time and don’t take things as priority. They say, “Okay. Can I use it to this model?” “I don’t have time today.” “I have a lot of things to wrap up.” “Can I come Friday?” “Oh, Friday. I’m far away today. Can you move it to next Tuesday?” I had to go to work and fix scheduling with their own to show up on time and just schedule some appointment.
One time, I had a dishwasher issue and American Home Shield sent a person who gave me a contact number but never came back. His company said they won’t come back to fix the dishwasher. American Home Shield said I have to open a new request, and if I do, I have to pay another deductible. I had to hire an outside person to get things done because I can’t keep on waiting forever. I paid for it from my pocket other than the deductible I paid to AHS. Also, they kept on increasing the prices without my knowledge. I have three properties that I have registered and that’s a $30 increase all together. That’s something I’m really concerned about.

Everything was great with American Home Shield. Everybody from start to finish had been very courteous. Everybody that they had sent out had always been very nice. We've sold our home and there was no problem with American Home Shield at all. I called American Home Shield before when the plumbing was backing up and it was draining slowly. A guy from JD Drain Tech then came out. He checked the cleanout and said that it was okay. The drains had been slow a couple of days before but maybe it was just a temporary block.

A bunch of my friends have American Home Shield and they had wanted me to get it for years. I’ve been in my home for 18 years now and things have started to wear down, so I said I'd try it out. Their price quote was good. My first claim with them was on the phone and that was lengthy. Nowadays, with computers you just go in there and it gets taken care of. For the second time, I submitted a claim and it was pretty awesome. It was quick and I like the fact that they send text messages on who’s gonna be coming. That was a lot more user-friendly.
The contractors are people that are fully clear of what’s going on and they’re not there to mess around. They’re there to fix the problem. Recently my pool pump wasn’t circling the water as it should be and was making a lot of noise. Now everything is working great. That repair was $400 but the whole unit cost me about 6 or 7 the last time I did it, so AHS pays itself off even if I don’t do another claim this year, which is a little comforting.

We had a couple of drains that were slow draining. It was easy to submit the claim online and the contractor that AHS sent out had really excellent customer service. He was a nice guy and he was very fast. AHS is worth the money.

I bought a house and when I moved in, I realized that the refrigerator was not working. I originally called American Home Shield for assistance on August 7. They sent GE Appliance Repair out and the repairman said that the refrigerator basically needed to be replaced. I called AHS multiple times a day for weeks and the wait time was long. Sometimes I'd be on hold for five minutes and then it would hang up on me and I'd have to call back. I talked to at least a dozen different people and everyone said they'll call me back within 24 hours but nobody did. I had one girl swear up and down that she's gonna call me tomorrow because nobody has to go through this but they're liars and everything that they've told me have been lies.
And then, the ninth of the ten reps that I talked to said to me, "Well when you called back and said that it wasn't fixed, we should've sent out another repairman." So they sent out another repairman on the 17th of August but I still have not heard from them since. It's almost a month later and nobody even bothered to call me. I bought a new refrigerator because I couldn't wait anymore and I went for a month without it. I have a diabetic in the house and we need a refrigerator for insulin but they didn't care. AHS needs to give their employees some training because they obviously have none. If nine different people didn't know that they had to send out another technician, I could not talk to them at that point without wanting to swear very much. So many people don't know how to do their job there and it's ridiculous.
I also had an electrician and a plumber come out and I used my credit card to pay the $100 charge for that. Nowhere did I sign up to store my card for any automatic payments and all of a sudden, two weeks later, they suck out almost $400 out of my account to pay part of my yearly charge. I called AHS back and made them take the card off.
When I first signed up, I told all my co-workers about AHS but now I tell people that if they've looked into AHS and signed up, they should cancel it. I was gonna cancel it myself but my mother told me that for plumbing and electricity, it's good to have the policy but I've already decided that for appliances, I'll handle them on my own.
Good morning Chrristy
I understand your concerns with your AHS policy regarding the delay in service you experienced to have your refrigerator repaired/replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and address your concerns.

The circuit breaker in my grandson’s bedroom kept popping off. I called American Home Shield and the reps did what they had to do. The technician that came out was really good. At the time he came out, the light were on and they wouldn't click off. He told me to call him and he would take a look at it when it's off. Overall, I wouldn't own a house without American Home Shield. But there are times where I’m not really happy with them and then there are times that it’s great. I don’t like the way they’re doing billing right now because before, I could pay the people that came to work on my stuff. Now, they either wanna bill me or they want me to pay upfront and I don’t like to pay upfront. And I really hate to get a bill, and I prefer to pay the guy when he comes out. So that bothers me.

I was having issues with my air conditioner and submitting a claim with American Home Shield was easy. The contractor they then sent out was great. He was very helpful and patient, and he fixed the problem quickly.

My air conditioning quit so I went online and filed a claim easily at American Home Shield's website. The contractor, Cameron, was out the same day and he was very nice. We were very pleased with him. He explained everything to us like what was wrong with it. He tested the unit and knew it had frozen up, which we wouldn't have known. He explained every single thing that he did and what parts he was replacing because he couldn't fix it. The compressor had frozen up so he submitted the order to his office on Monday because he was out on a Sunday. It took a couple of days for the part to come in so they called because they had to make sure it would be okay. It took about 10 days, altogether, which was really pretty fast considering it was 100 degrees out. Usually you can't get a contractor for three months. We haven't had any problems since. We have air conditioning and the dogs and I are happy.

My dryer was not heating and the dasher was going around just a little bit, but not forcefully enough to take the clothes down and clean them. I submitted a claim with AHS on the phone and talking to their rep was superb. It took a couple of days to get a contractor, but it was still done expeditiously. The young guy introduced himself and he showed each step that he did.
I told the contractor that the dasher wasn’t doing what it was supposed to and I also asked a few questions ‘cause I thought it was the element, but it was something else. He then showed me the non-functioning part and what it should be doing and how it should be working until it finished what he did. He explained everything and what part could cause the clothes not to dry well. And since the repair, everything has been performing well. I consider having a warranty as an investment and it takes care of my needs. Everything I have submitted with American Home Shield has been taken care of completely, effectively, and efficiently.
