We have a hot water tank that's accessible from downstairs. It's above the floor, and that tank was tripping all the time. When a hot water tank gets hot and it hits reset, it shuts down, and you have to go back and reset it, and it was making all sorts of noises. So, I explained that to our home warranty company and they sent out some people. We had to do a couple of iterations on that, but they finally came out with ProLine. They changed the upper and lower heating element in the hot water tank, which they judged was in great shape except for this problem. They put new thermostats in as well.

I phoned American Home Shield to do a claim, I explained, and they sent somebody out with the intention of trying to understand what the problem was. We are in good shape right now. Between the two elements, one of them was partially working. There's an upper and lower heating element in the hot water tank. The bottom one was burned out and was putting all the load on the top element and it was overheating the water and creating other problems and that's why it would reset. It would get so hot it would shut down. I was concerned that this was gonna cause a safety issue for anyone in my family.

When people do a good job, they deserve credit. We have enough people who drop the ball all the time that, in turn, creates other problems. But American Home Shield was good about all of this stuff and they were very prompt. I've dealt with them beforehand, too, and they've been good all the way along. My price is locked in at a $100 for the service that I have. It's tied to a cost or a fee per requirement for American Home Shield. So, I pay $100. So, that impacts my monthly fee that I pay. I like things to be able to depend on and that's why I have American Home Shield.

The technician came out for the dishwasher twice. It didn't work and then he said nothing was wrong with it. He spun it for three times. It was a rental property. So, then someone moved in. They had the same problem. But because it was 4 days maybe past the 30 days, I had to pay another fee for them to come back out. This time they said it was hooked up wrong. But I paid twice for the dishwasher, which was half the price from me buying a brand new one. I wasn't satisfied with that visit. I also had a claim for an air conditioner and the contractor said I can get it fixed for three something, but I can get a new one for seven. So I elected to get the new one. So far, nobody's called me back and said there was a problem. The installation of that one went okay.

I've had American Home Shield since my house that I bought in 2016 and I kept re-upping it every year. They have been prompt in their responses to issues, whether I submit the issue online or I pick up the phone and talk to a human. They have always sent me repair people who are very informative and friendly. I'm an old lady who lives alone, so there is that nervous factor. They always made me very much at ease. I moved in and within six months, both furnaces trumped. That would have been $22,000. I paid 1,002 and 1,004 for each one as part of my co-pay and AHS covered the rest.

AHS offered a winter tune-up for $100. The tech found something wrong in the winter tune-up and replaced it. So, I had to put in an additional work order. Usually, they would have to come back again because it was a work order attached to a preventative maintenance call, but he said he was from Mesa. In Phoenix, we have our furnaces in the attic because we don't have basements. The tech came down the ladder to explain to me, took photographs and video and showed me everything that did up there and told me that the hot surface conductor needed to be replaced because it sparked, but wouldn't transfer the spark to heat to turn the hot air on in the furnace. I put the work order in and the computer told me right upfront that it would be $129. I paid it and AHS paid the remainder.

The toilet was loose and the contractor came out and fixed it. But two weeks later, it got loose again so the contractor came out again and they said that there was a flange that was broken. They replaced that and now it seems okay. I don't know how long it'll hold up, though. This is the first time a contractor had to come out multiple times. We've used AHS a whole lot and never had a problem like this. Overall, I'm highly satisfied. Everything seems to work pretty well when I need them.

The first tech who came out for my claim with AHS changed out a condenser and the AC worked for two days. Then on Monday, I had to call them back because it quit working. They came back out on Tuesday. The guy gave me a huge quote for replacing my entire unit. American Home Shield was only gonna cover 700 and some odd dollars of the whole total replacement. I was under the impression with the home warranty they would cover more than $700 for a replacement of a whole air conditioning unit. But they did not. I told them that I would just find my own repair company to repair the unit. I'm gonna do a total replacement. They gave me a payment of $700 to go towards the new system, with the company of my choice.

I've used American Home Shield plenty of times. They did a few nice things for me. I had a leaking roof. They sent out a contractor and fixed my stove. My oven quit on me. They fixed the core inside. My HVAC gave me problems. AHS also did some preventive maintenance. I thought it was smoke coming out, but the guy told me that it was not. I thought the stove caught fire. A guy came out. He looked at it. He reviewed everything. He told me, “No. This is the heater blowing off steam,” and showed me different things I could do to help keep my machine up and serviced it. It was a great service. Everything works great. The people fixed most of the things that they came out to fix. They just changed parts on them.

The roof leaked and the water leaked on top of the hot water heater. The contractor told me, “It's not the roof. It's the seal around the exhaust that goes outside.” The people that came to service that tried to charge me one price, and gave me a quote on one price, but didn't do the things they put in the quote. I called them back and said, “Okay.” I had to pay them extra. The roof was the only thing I had to pay extra for, but everything else was covered. I had the platinum package, so I made sure that I was covered before I called.

AHS made it right. But if I didn't call them or go on the roof myself to look, they wouldn't have said anything. That was bad business. By the time I went up there to look, all they did was put down silicone, some roof concrete, and that was it. That was an old bucket that they've been using for a long time. They charged me for a brand-new bucket. I didn't get to keep that bucket. But that is the way some businesses work.

The latest repair was a toilet. That and the stove work great. The roof is not leaking anymore. I put another coat of some silicone on top of the roof to protect it more. And the HVAC runs well. I cleaned the evaporator coil myself because the guy wanted to do it but they never came back. I guess it was too much to do. I figured it out. I ordered the tools I needed, and I made it happen. That ran beautifully.

AHS is a great service. It’s a reasonable price. They would charge 100 bucks for some of the preventive maintenance. The techs don't do much. They just come out, look at our stuff, take it apart and put it back together. Sometimes they leave stuff off. It would be, “It was better off before you got here. And I still gotta pay you.” It's annoying. Also, communication could be a bit better with the follow through. Everybody has their own mindset on what they think is right and not. Some of them are chains. A lot of the chains are workers going through the motions. Some are independently owned, which is nicer because they have more to lose than the chains. I would rather get the independently owned because I know they would do a great job.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time, so I know what I would get into and I am willing to invest the money per month to be prepared if something went wrong. AHS has their service calls go somewhere else, usually out of country. Even though I might get someone that could understand me and I could understand them, I still have the challenge of the disconnect. But AHS is not the only one that does that. I had an issue with my dishwasher. For some reason, it would not dry properly. AHS sent out a service repair company. They looked at the dishwasher, ordered the part, asked me to let them know when the part came in, which I did, and they came out and serviced it.

I've been in my home for almost eight years. American Home Shield sent out contractors within the first couple of years. My water heater was original to the home, which was built in the ‘70s. It was a tank that lasted a while and rusted out. I had the home warranty. The contractor came out and replaced it five years ago. Seemed good. I went down the other day. I saw water leaking from it. I called AHS right away. They sent Carl's back out. Very nice technician. He said, “Once it starts leaking, we gotta replace it. It's under warranty with the manufacturer. But you have the home warranty too, so let me figure that out.” All said and done with AHS and with paying to them, I just spent 500 bucks. Cheaper than a brand new one. At that cost what Carl said was due to having to fabricate the pipes back and the connections from the gas lines to the water heater.

It's under warranty. I didn't think I'd have to spend that much. But if that's the policy, that's what I needed to do. So, he took care of that. Everything seems good to go. I wrote Carl's a check. I paid the home warranty. I had a contractor come on the following Saturday. Last Tuesday, they replaced it. Saturday, I had a contractor come over because I'm having some work done on my bathroom. The tech looked around. We went in the basement. The water heater is the first thing when we hit the bottom of the steps into my basement. He said, “I smell gas. Do you smell that?” I said, “They just replaced the water heater. Maybe that's what you're smelling, the residualness of all that.” He said, “No. This seems odd.”

He got a tester. He had a diode on it. He calibrated it. He went right up to the fittings of the pipe. He said, “This thing's gonna detect natural gas. It's gonna go off like crazy.” He started putting it by the pipe. Immediately, it started screaming. He said, “You gotta call them back. And they need to come out here and get this fixed. You got a gas leak.” I called the plumber. The on-call guy answered. He said, “I wanna help you out, but you gotta go through the home warranty, unfortunately.” I got on the phone. I explained how pressing it was, got the dispatch number over the phone, called the on-call guy back, gave him that. He came right out. He detected it. He said, “Yup. The previous guy just made a mistake and didn't tighten it all the way.”

He took it apart. He showed me. He didn't have the tester with him, but he sprayed it with soapy water. I saw a bubbling up, showing that there was gas leaking. He put some dielectric pipe grease on it to make sure the seal held. He tested it. He said he has been a plumber for over 30 years, he would talk to the guy that came out, who was nothing but nice. He just missed a step. I get it. It happens. And they came out and fixed it. They didn't charge me. I hope I wasn't charged by the home warranty. I don't believe I was because I didn't have to initiate anything. They told me I wouldn't pay for it, so I'll look on my account, because it was under warranty.

The plumber texted me when he was coming. I told him I had to run out. “What time do you think you'd be here?” He would cut me in the loop. He was here for an hour. He took care of it, answered all my questions, and was very nice. Monday or Tuesday, I got a call from the woman at Carl's, making sure everything was good, wanted to know what happened, make sure the story was all checked out. I told her the same thing. She agreed. She said, “I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm glad we got it taken care of. And let us know if anything happens.” I would recommend them. They said they would talk to the guy that made the mistake and use it as a coaching and learning experience. I understand that mistakes are made. They got that it was an emergency, given that it's natural gas. I didn't want my wife, myself, and my daughter to get sick. They handled it perfectly. Everything works good now. I would use Carl's in the future.

I have some concerns about AHS, because I've called in the past. The rates go up. Everything is more expensive now. I complained because I was gonna cancel once to say, “I don't need this anymore. You keep raising the rate.” They kept putting me on hold and said, “What about this rate? How can we keep your business?” They gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. When they did that, they said they would reduce my monthly payment. They never did that. They said, “We're going to provide you a one-time credit that would equal out to what that discount was.” Never saw that. Never was applied. We're going on two years.

The people I talked to aren't the easiest to understand. I'm patient with them. But besides the language barrier, they have no clue on the account of what the notes say. Their calls are recorded. I've called three times about this discount I was supposed to get. It was in a 12-month period. It was supposed to deduct roughly 20 bucks a month off my bill. 20 times 12 is $240. I kept track on it. I called on it. It came to a thing where AHS wouldn't honor their word and I'm getting irritated. But the contractors that they use have been solid. They have done all right besides the billing issue that they have not cleared up for me.

The tech got out quickly, got it all fixed, and it works now. The only improvement I could think of for AHS is I hope they could simplify the app to be able to make the claim without having to do the whole get-on-hold situation. But one thing that's good is their quick response time. When I called, it was within a week or two that I got all my stuff fixed.

I was disappointed with American Home Shield. When it gets cold, mice come in from the outside and we live in a highly wooded area. Evidently, the mice came in and the urine from the mice ate through the gas line on all Samsung products, especially a conventional range oven. This is what the technician had told me and also, one of the workers for the gas company.

When he reported it back to AHS, he told them what was what, but AHS denied the claim because he said if I have damage caused by rodents, they don't cover it. I was a little disappointed because that's something that happens. You can't stop mice from coming into your house. I ended up getting a new stove and it wasn't a Samsung product. What I like most is their ability to come out and replace items that might be faulty or damaged, not because of someone's neglect. But I did not like being told that my problem couldn't be solved because of a small print and that's what I consider small print.

For my recent claim with AHS, they replaced my kitchen faucet. Sometimes the techs don't get it the first time and they have to come back. This last technician was a young guy and he was having difficulty removing the old kitchen faucet. The nuts and bolts were rusted together and he needed to come back to take care of it. He might have had to get some advice. But in any case, he came back and solved the problem.

I've switched to other companies and the unique thing that AHS has that other companies don't have is if my heating system goes down and collapses and cannot be repaired, they have a replacement option. I've had other home warranty companies that I tried that were a little bit less expensive, but they said, "Your heating system is 12 years old. To us, it's only worth $200. Go buy a new heating system." But a heating system costs a lot more than that. It costs about 1500. The last one I put in was about $4000. So I got screwed with those warranty companies. American Home Shield has replaced a couple of my heating systems and that was worth well over the amount of money that I was spending on this service. I've been using AHS for decades now.

American Home Shield is a service worth getting if you have an older home. The house was new in 2018 but as things got older, they wore out or broke so everything was going out of warranty, which was why I got AHS. The first claim I had was for an icemaker. The guy did it nicely and the only problem I saw was a lot of times, the techs would come out and diagnose the problem but they had no parts and they gotta order them and come back a few days later to do it.

At about the same time, I had a couple of garage door openers that were destroyed. That was an incredible service because I turned in the claim online one morning and within half an hour, some guy called me and said that he was on the other end of my city here and they had a cancellation. He wanted to know if he could come by. He came and diagnosed the problem and got two new garage door openers, and within four hours, I had my garage door openers replaced. I had to pay for those myself but I got the installation done. I like that when something goes wrong, I don't have to hunt for a repairman to fix it. When I turn it in, AHS already has a contact to send out.

The tech from Schen Electric has not completed everything yet. He replaced the three lights in the garage but I have a couple of socket lights that are affected, too, that he hasn't replaced. I also had in my basement a ground fault plug that was damaged and won't reset, and he was supposed to replace both of those. But it's been at least two weeks since he replaced the garage lights and I haven't heard anything from him since. He’s not very reliable and I have to keep contacting him. I was getting ready to contact him again next week. I just haven't got around to doing it yet. I've not been very happy with the guy. He just doesn't seem to get it.

My power went out in my kitchen but not every outlet. I called AHS in the morning and the tech from JC Electric came out the following day in the late afternoon. He found that a switch had gone wonky and he had to replace it. This claim was handled pretty efficiently but the call before that from over two months ago when a part on my range hood broke wasn't. I called that in at the beginning of September and it still isn't replaced because I had to order a new range hood, which I did through American Home Shield. They sent out a technician with the new hood and they had me sign the paperwork saying that they were there. I thought I was signing for the delivery of the new hood, but I was actually signing that they had installed it. But they did not.

They said they couldn't install it and that if they took the new range hood back, they could only keep it until Friday and then they had to send it back. So they were telling me that I had to take it and left it in my garage. I called the vendor and they said they would tell American Home Shield that they couldn't install it. A couple of days went by and I didn't hear from anybody. I called American Home Shield and they said they'd send a new technician, which took a couple of days. The new technician didn't get in contact with me and a couple of days went by.

I called AHS again and they they needed to process the request. Then a couple of days later, I got a note from American Home Shield that that technician had declined to install. They never came out here but declined to install the range hood. They didn't reassign it and I had to call American Home Shield back. They said they could give me my $125 back and I could have it installed. But I told them that they needed to find a technician to install it. Nobody could even install a light switch for $125, let alone a range hood.

They assigned another technician about a week later. They never called me and I had to call them. Then about a week after that, they sent a note that they weren't going to install it. So, I called American Home Shield back. They said they couldn't find a technician to install my range hood but I could go find someone to install it and send them an invoice, then maybe they'd reimburse it. But the contract says that they will repair and install. But now they were telling me that I get to do their job. Fun.

I finally found someone to install it and sent the invoice to AHS. They said they're not going to pay the whole invoice, just half of it. And that's where we are. Even though I've gone back and forth with them, they said under my contract, they don't have to cover it. But I beg to differ. If you actually read the contract, they do have an obligation to install this. And now, it's been over two months back and forth. I still have a range hood sitting in my garage and no range hood in my kitchen. It's insane. I can still cook but I have to be careful about it. I don't have a greaser anymore, which is not the best thing.

I have a policy through American Home Shield, but as soon as I finish up with what I'm doing, I likely will cancel with it. I have a claim that's still pending that they haven't made a decision on. So, that would be the only reason why I would be canceling, if I do, because it's been very disappointing. They want me to have a GE oven and my oven is a KitchenAid. At the end of the day, they were like, "Oh, if you don't want that one, then we can give you $800 and you can go buy what you want." To replace mine, it would be $2,500. I pay $1,500 a year and they only wanna give me a fraction. I would have paid in last year almost $1,400 just on premiums, then I pay 100 for a service call. So, I've already paid 1,500, and then, it keeps going up the chain. The worst part about that thing is the two people I've talked to are foreigners and they can't speak English clearly. So, it made it very difficult to communicate with them.

A couple of years ago, I used the self-clean and my oven died completely. They came out and fixed it and that was all good. But when they fixed it, the light wouldn't work. At that time, I told them the light would not work. The guy that was there said, "You can buy bulbs. We can replace it, but you can buy bulbs." My husband ordered bulbs. When he put the bulbs in, it didn't work. Time passed by and we didn't call them back and just left it. I kept wanting my light to work in the oven. So, I placed a new claim about the light, and then it was like, "We can give you a GE." It was not the same brand. I said, "I'll have a mismatch in my kitchen with appliances." They said, "Well, we don't go by the brand." I said, "But this is a better grade." "Well, no. We only have to give you the same that you asked for, the same quality." Mine is a higher-end piece.

The inside vent of the dryer got broken, so it was changed. Everything has been good since the repair. AHS is a good company to partner with and I like that they are very prompt in solving my problems. For example, if I called them today, they would send out a technician the next day and the work would be done the following day. But I had two things that I had to get fixed at the same time and I paid full price for each one. I should've gotten a discount.

I have been dealing with American Home Shield for a couple of years now. I never had any problems with them. When it comes down to getting something repaired, it's quick. You put your work order in and somebody calls you within the next 24 hours. And within 3 to 5 days, it’s repaired. They don't have to order any part. I just hadn't had a bad experience with them yet.

I was having a problem with my garage door and I put in a claim for someone to come out and check it. Overhead Door was wonderful. They came and they finished my repair the same day and they were very professional and very good overall. I haven't had a problem with the techs AHS sent. They’ve all been good. They are always very polite and professional. They explain to me detail for detail what they wanna do and what they did. They show a lot of respect when they’re coming into the home. I recommended two of my friends to AHS and they ended up signing up with American Home Shield as well.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was not great, but good. It was a little bit frustrating finally getting to the right craftsman to come out and take care of the issue. My wife was the one doing the phone calls, but what had happened was, we did the initial call. We told them exactly what's going on and we got assigned to a technician. It turns out the technician wasn't able to deal with a Sub-Zero refrigerator. So, they put us off, and sent us to another technician. Ultimately, it worked out fine and the gentleman who came out was very nice, but the process to get to that was a little frustrating. We're used to calling a repair guy and he comes out a day later and we're good. This one took a while.

For the other part of the job, he said we had to reach out to the homeowners insurance. But he did a temporary fix for us. So it was not that Dave did not do the job, he just couldn't do it. All in all, my experience with AHS has been good and I didn't have any other issues. Their claims process was very easy and the cost of the service is reasonable for the kind of work that they do. You pay monthly and 125 every time somebody comes out.

I was always pleased with the contractors that American Home Shield sent out. I never had an issue. Things always got resolved. I was always satisfied. Recently, we didn't have heat and they sent a company. The issue was the thermostat and they changed it. It worked for the winter. Then when summer came, we didn't have air conditioning. So, I had to call again, and sent somebody out. It was the thermostat again, same company. Then it seemed like something happened again and they came again. They were here three times. None of the times were they successful. The last time they came, they had to replace the blower motor. I heard a bunch of knocking. I called American Home Shield for service, and a different company came. When they came, that company that had come three times, which cost me $300, didn't bolt down the motor. But it blew the fins off the motor. So I do not want them anymore in my home again.

The other problem I have is the language barrier. It's been horrible. One of the other calls just before these, the girl told me that I owed $300 to do the platinum plan. I said, "What?" Then she said, "Yes. It's gonna cost you $330 or something." So I said, “Then I don't want it.” Then I hung up from her. I went online and then I got the plan. I did get the three $75 payments taken off my Discover card. They did do that and I didn't get Whitney Services for my washer. I got Sears, which is odd. It's just been kind of a nightmare and we have been good customers for a long time. I've told a lot of people, "Go with American Home Shield. They're great." Then my son had that problem. I'm just disappointed.

I'm 74 years old. I can't decipher some of the things these people are saying. I sent in a claim for the heat and I had to call the contractor because they weren't calling me to set up an appointment. The rep said, "No. The girl put you down for air conditioning and she says until the temperature gets up there and warm enough, we won't be able to test." But I said, "No. I need heat." She said, "Oh, they put down you need air conditioning." This was around the last week of October.

There was water puddling underneath the water heater that we noticed when we were doing our laundry. We did an online claim to American Home Shield. Their site is user-friendly. I don't have a problem getting into it and then putting the claim in. The only thing once in a while I run into a problem with the website is that the problem we're having is not one of the pickable options. There was another claim where the faucet wasn't necessarily leaking, it was dripping. I would have liked to be more specific when I put the claim in of what actually was going on. I would like to be able to say what was going wrong instead of it just saying it doesn't work.

The techs came in, looked, and they were very professional. They said, "There's multiple different options, but if we're gonna replace it with the exact one that you had, then they'll cover it. If you wanna upgrade it, it's gonna be this amount. We have to do it this way." We were told that most of it would be covered by our home warranty company. The water heater is working perfectly and we have more hot water than we had before we had got it fixed. So, it's good.

American Home Shield is genuinely easy to work with and they replace and do the service that they promised they're going to do. I like that we can do most of our claims submission online. We don't have to talk with people. But if I had to improve it some way, it would be if a service needs to be escalated, there needs to be a clear line of communication. Customer service does as well as they're able to do, but they're constrained by the rules of the company. Overall, they do really well.

He said it would be 2-3 days. And then that same day, he was like, "Don't worry, we got it. We can be back tomorrow." So, he tried to get things resolved quickly and not following the standard time. That was very good. This was the first time that my experience was really positive, and fast and easy. The previous times, typically, it's not as friendly, not as flexible for the schedule lead, or that I needed to follow up on them so that they can call me back so I can get an appointment scheduled. It's usually a lot of hassle.

American Home Shield sends somebody out fast, and I usually get a call in the good days within a day. But there have been situations where it was three days and the service people weren't calling, and I had to escalate to you guys. Also, I don't think AHS has a lot of tiers when it comes to their packages as compared to other competitors. I think that could be improved along with the pricing. For comparison, I have another property. The other property is $49 a month, and AHS is on the 69, and it's the same thing. AHS should be a little more competitive on that sense. Other than all that, everything is fine. The customer service is good.

I've been protected with American Home Shield for a year and six months. I like the hope that I won't have to buy new appliances if they break down. It's a hope because our disposal broke down and they told us that wasn't covered either. It works, but the homeowner has to do their part or know what will be covered and not. We submitted a claim for a refrigerator. It wasn't working. We paid the $99 and Lake Area Appliances came out. I wasn't there, but the tech wasn't there for long. His report said the back of the refrigerator was dirty, and that is what caused it to stop working. Three days later, I got a report that said that Lake Area said it was a normal wear and tear. I called AHS and said, “It sounds like normal wear and tear to me. But whatever. I want a second opinion.”

We got an appointment within two days, and four days later, Banister Davidson Appliances came out and the tech said that it was dirty, but LG was known to have bad compressors, and many people, the back of the refrigerators don't look different. So, they put in the rest of the claim and we got our refrigerator fixed. They ordered one part through LG warranty and ordered one through the American Home Shield program. Once those two parts came in, they came and fixed it.

Submitting the claim for the AC was easy. Air conditioning is well laid out on American Home Shield's website. But I filed another claim recently because I have a leak at my well pump, and they didn't have a section for well pumps. So, I had to put it down under leaky pipe. The plumbing company never showed up. I called AHS back, and they told me, "We don't do leaky pipes outdoors." I said, "I went over that with the agent when I signed up that you do handle outdoor plumbing 'cause I have outdoor plumbing. And they told me, 'Yes.' So, if you're not gonna cover it, I want my money back. If you are gonna cover it, I need somebody to show up."

The pipe has been squirting water all over my yard for three days. That lady said, "You gotta submit it as a well pump." She submitted it as a well pump and I still haven't heard anything from anybody. They do their job okay, but the contractors drop the ball. I got a couple of contractors that were good, but I've had several that didn't show up or call. AHS needs better contractors. Other than that, it's inexpensive to get good repairs done like the air conditioner.

My stove is a double oven and the top oven had ceased to heat up beyond 200 degrees. I reached out to American Home Shield by phone and I explained what I needed. I set up the appointment with the contractor, Qwick Appliance Service, and they came out in a short while. The only wait we had was about 10 days for some parts to come in. Then, the tech returned and fixed the stove. I'm pleased with American Home Shield. I had them in the past some years ago and was pleased with them then. They have provided whatever I was calling about.

We had trouble with our heating system, and if that has to be replaced, that's a big expense. American Home Shield says if they can't fix it, they'll replace it, so I got it. We've had it a couple of years, and they raised the price and went on with no notification. I didn't like that. I would have liked to have known. I also don't know whether if I make another claim, they'll raise it again. Besides that, the customer service is good and even though the price is high, if they cover what they say they're gonna cover, it's worth it. If something happens, I can have it taken care of and I haven't had a situation where they told me, "We're not gonna help you with that." They offered a free tune-up on our system, and I took advantage of that. The tech looked at it, then he changed the filter. He was polite and professional.

Having American Home Shield is a relief. It's another something people have to work into a budget, but they don't have to pay for warranties on their fridge, stove, or these other warranties that they're being sold on because they're covered for plumbing, electricity, and so on. When someone has a home and they're older and can't fix the stuff themselves, they need that coverage.

J.R. Plumbing did a terrible job. I had a leaky kitchen faucet, and the repairman took the vent that covers the airway for the air conditioning. I noticed that lately, the upstairs and the downstairs were leaking. I didn't even know that the vent was missing. I went and bought a vent. I tried to get American Home Shield to get J.R. Plumbing to come back, but they no longer work with them.

American Home Shield said I would have to log a case which I did. But because the claim with J.R. Plumbing happened last year, they said that they could not fix the vent and that would be on me. They also said that the guys from My Georgia Plumber were gonna come. They were very good guys. Geo came the second day. The first guy was Wesley, and he said that the water pressure was off. That was something that should have been checked by J.R. Plumbing last year, but they never checked it. They found out that my water pressure reducer valve needed to be replaced. They fixed that for me and the water pressure from my shower works a lot better.

Unfortunately, it messed up my faucet because of the pressure coming through. That's why I still have drippy faucets. It's a secondary item that was caused by the first issue, and American Home Shield is not gonna fix it. It's gotten so bad now that I'm thinking about pressing charges against J.R. Plumbing. I tried to reach out to them but they would not return any of my phone calls. They were contracted by American Home Shield yet I have to deal with their debauchery.

Other than that, I like American Home Shield. I've been with them now for 22 years. We have to sometimes go toe to toe but eventually, I'll find someone that will be reasonable with me and tell me the yay or nay. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield because it's good to have that safety net in case something major happens to your house. However, when filing claims online, you have to be really specific. It's very standard and they could improve on that. They should have more options.

He started stating that he can't hear anything and just ran off within 10 minutes. Very poor service by the contractor, I trusted AHS to back me up. They took note down and denied my request for another service as contractor said "He didn't find anything wrong". I called again and was told that the period to request for a recall for service has expired and I'm just out of $100. I asked them why would they only believe contractor's word, not mine? They said, "Sorry, too bad."

I immediately requested to cancel my service and was told that my service will be cancelled within next 2-3 days. I called the phone number as I didn't believe the chat agent. As I thought, there was no request to cancel my service. I paid $70 every month for 4 years. And they just do not respect or honor the customers and try to save themselves a chump change. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. Huge disappointment.

The old professional was just guiding him all the way so I didn’t mind him having a trainee with him. You have to train new guys. Clean Air Act provided excellent and very professional service. I’ve had AHS for maybe five years and I like the ease with which we get service. I don't see anything that could be improved unless they dropped the prices. But that's not going to happen. I plan on canceling my membership with American Home Shield. I've had them for several years now, but I feel it's an inconvenience and a waste at this point. They only have the free check for the AC for so many weeks but don't promote it very well. If it's free, they should automatically just set something up. I scheduled that the other day and they are aware I have two units. They scheduled for one unit to be checked. One unit out of two didn't make any sense to me. The lady told me I would have to pay for them to service the second unit. How is that helping me with my free unit check for the year? They're just baiting me to do further service so I could pay out of pocket later.

They do a great job with scheduling someone to come out once you call it in for your $100, but the customer service is poor. When we had a water issue, we called them and told them we had a busted pipe. They said they were gonna send someone out. They asked any other issues within the home and I told them there was some drainage issue. A plumber came in and saw the busted pipes. For the secondary issue which was a clogged pipe, he went up there and looked at it. He threw some Drano in it then said he couldn't fix the busted pipe but was still charging me. If he couldn't fix the initial problem which was the bigger issue, we wouldn't even have brought him in the house. If American Home Shield knew that our busted pipe wasn't covered, why would they even send someone out or why didn't they let us know that on the phone that it was not covered under our plan?

The constant price jump is outrageous. It's not $10 or $20. It's been a good jump. I changed the plan to bring the price down. It's the lesser plan but they jumped it up $30. Everything is going up but at the same time, they don't communicate with their customers. They're just automatically drafting out your account without your knowledge. They said they sent me an email but I did not receive that, and they know everyone's not checking their email. I have asked them to please send me something in the mail so that I could keep up with it. I'm paying every month but I'm not using the service every month. They should be able to send me something in the mail that says my contract is renewing and my price is going up.

I had storm damage. I went online and filed the claim to American Home Shield. They covered $1,000 of roof damage. They sent out the company. I wasn't even home when they came out. But I noticed that my Ring camera kept going off and when I looked on there, they were out fixing my roof. They fixed it. The claim process is amazing. You just go online and put whatever it is that's going on with you. Then they have you pay the deposit and the guys came out.

I also had a company come out and do the annual servicing for my air conditioning and heater. I had a ceiling fan that needed to be repaired and the company came out and handled it. I have been trying to get somebody to come out for over a year for that ceiling fan. By being a small job, I couldn't get any of the companies around me to come out. When I put the claim online to American Home Shield, somebody came out at 7 o'clock. On the day that they told me they would be there, they were there at 6:59 AM. They woke me up. American Home Shield is the real deal. I have not had a problem. It's so easy to use. If you're computer savvy, you have no worries. They send you an alert on who's coming out. Awful Awful Awful. Took me months to get any satisfaction dealing with this company. Difficult getting anyone on the phone once you're hooked. Difficult getting a competent service person out to your home. And then difficult getting your repair/replacement approved and paid-for. I finally did get "satisfaction" of a sort from them, but ultimately it was not worth the effort, and I discontinued the plan as soon as the contract was up. The amount I paid was pretty close to the amount they paid out, but just don't bother with them. A family member had some plumbing issues, and the company NEVER gave them any satisfaction. As is typical, they came up with all kinds of excuses not to pay out, even though the problem was clearly covered in their contract. BTW most home warranties of this type are just as bad, plus or minus. It's generally better to self-insure.

The repairman who came was knowledgeable and professional. He said that one pipe was leaking with water, and he fixed the leak. But the last time I did a claim, I was upset. I had a problem with my swimming pool and somebody came and told me it was not gonna be under warranty. It was my pump and there was a dripping water. The guy wouldn't fix it and said it was normal wear and a tear. That was ridiculous. It did not make sense whatever the excuse he gave me. I spent 125 service call fee for nothing.

I called AHS on a Wednesday when I realized that I didn't have any hot water. Hers & His Plumbing Services was scheduled to come out on a Thursday and they were to call me 30 minutes before they arrived. I was at work and didn't hear anything. I finally left my office to get there before the scheduled time but when I got there, there was still nobody. I called and they said they had been here but I wasn't home. I told them I wasn't notified, and that I had been here 30 minutes before the end of the appointment time. They said there was nothing else they could do and to call AHS back, so I did.

I was extremely upset about it. I even asked the first person I was talking with if I could talk to somebody in the escalation group. I got a person who was very unlike any dealings I've had with American Home Shield. She was very abrupt and did not wanna take care of it at all. I told her I had just talked with Hers & His, and they said that I needed to call AHS and reschedule so they could get out as quickly as possible. They put me on hold several times, came back and told me they would be there on Friday between 10:00 and 2:00. I was home on Friday but nobody ever came. At 1:45, I called them and talked to a very nice lady at dispatch at Hers & His. She said, "I am so sorry but we don't have anything scheduled for you. There was no appointment made by AHS for today. We're completely booked and in order to get an appointment on Monday, you need to call them right away."

I called AHS back and explained it to the person that I got. That person was helpful. They said they would call back right away which they did. I said I'd like to have the information so I could call them immediately and not wait for them to contact me because that was what Hers & His said to do, and they gave me the information. I called the lady at Hers and His back, and she got me scheduled for that next morning slot. I was their second call.

The guy that showed up was excellent, but I was six days without any hot water. I was totally let down by AHS who I've supported for years. I've also sent multiple people there over all those years for them to use, which they all have. I've been a customer of theirs for 24 years on this home. Prior to that, I was with them in another residence. Before this incident, I've had great experiences with them. They're reliable and affordable. I can call them 24 hours if needed and typically my issue gets taken care of right away.

I haven't been thrilled with American Home Shield, but at the moment, I don't have an issue. I was very pleased with May Heating & Air, but the people that AHS sent the first time around were horrible. My AC wasn't working, and I figured, since it's under warranty, even though I don't really need AC at the moment, I need to go ahead and address that. So, they sent out Mike's Clean Air on October 31st, and the guy refused to go under the house and investigate the issue. He acted like he attempted to go under, and then he called it in and he said he was marking it as no-access.

I have one access point under my house. It's a crawl space, and he was saying he wasn't going under there because he lifted up his shirt and showed me how he had bumps all over his back where he had gone in somebody else's basement, and he was saying he couldn't fit in there. For a man, this guy was small and he wasn't overweight. I said, “You have to back in. That's the best way to get in. Put your feet first and crawl backwards. “

This guy was telling me he couldn't get in it. I was so furious. He found part of the issue. He could see that somebody had cut the electrical line from the furnace to under the house, and he could have at least fixed that because the part that he needed to reconnect was coming out from the house already, and he just needed to wire it back together, but he didn't even do that. I had to wait for a couple of days for May to come out, and I was very pleased with their guy.

He came in and went into the house to investigate where the wire was coming from and make sure everything was okay. He told me to turn the AC on to see that it did or didn't work, which it didn't. He went out and looked at the HVAC outside, and he found the problem right away. He said, “I don't know why this guy didn't connect it, because here it is. All they had to do was connect it.” So, I was very pleased with him. He was very personable. He was knowledgeable. He was willing to go above and beyond.

One thing I don't like with AHS is when you call anybody, you always get somebody in another country and it's very difficult to understand them. You have to struggle to communicate, but they've sent people out and done their thing. They've come through eventually. Ultimately, they have done everything that they were supposed to do at this point. I just don't like that you can't ever speak to anybody in America anymore whose first language is English. Overall, my experience has been kind of a struggle, but I like the coverage.

We had a lot of people in our house and we were doing a lot of laundry. The bearing on the dryer where the drum sits on had worn and was not doing its job anymore. We filed the American Home Shield claim for someone to come out and fix it. The process was pretty easy and straightforward. You only select items that are available in your policy that you selected. So if you're covered for plumbing or appliances, you can only select items that are covered in the app or on the website to file a claim for them to repair.

For this claim, Appliance Magic was the vendor that was selected to come out and repair the dryer. I got a text message and a link to their business before their tech came out. He had to take the dryer apart and take a look at what was going on. Then he diagnosed what was the problem. He said he could put it back together again, but the problem was only going to get worse. So, I thought there really was no sense incurring further damage to the dryer by having a fully functioning part. So the dryer sat in a state of somewhat dismantled, but that was my choice. There was a bit of a parts issue of them getting the correct part, but that wasn't them as much as, I have a GE dryer and GE sent them the wrong part. So that was on GE. But when they had the right part, the guy came right back out and within 30 minutes, had the part in and the dryer working.

With American Home Shield, if you have a problem that can't be fixed, eventually, they will send you a link and they'll tell you to either pick one of three replacements or have a cash value and buy it yourself. So far, they have replaced the dishwasher for a circuit board issue that would not stay repaired. Also, a repairman came out and stripped a bolt on my gas range, and they bought me a new range. So AHS made things right and I like that. I've had a lot of good success with the warranty and I've got good coverage. But their process is still pretty much web-based and it would be better if they had more of an interactive app. All in all, I recommend to have that kind of warranty if you're buying a home. It's cheaper and more convenient than going out and finding a repair company on your own. I've had shower faucets and sinks replaced, and 90% of the time, their vendors are well vetted and they do good work.

I don't like when I call and everything is automated and I have to click one, click two. But it's easy to put in a ticket. I would put my ticket in online, I don't have to talk to anybody if I don't want to. But there should be an option to talk to a person. Other than that, I love the people that American Home Shield sent out. They're very friendly. I trust them. I'm a single woman. They come in my house. I feel safe. They're very knowledgeable and intelligible. They don't have any problems with me asking 1,000 questions.

My microwave acting funky. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. It always works when I use the “Add 30 Seconds” button, but not all the functions work consistently. Sometimes it made random noises. So, it needed to be replaced. Both of the dishwasher's motherboards burned out. We thought one motherboard had only burned out, so he replaced that. Came to find out that both had burned out. Also, the rack inside was broken. The part at the top covering where the buttons go broke off. It has electrical components showing. It's not safe. So, they wound up replacing the dishwasher as well because it was cheaper to replace it than to fix them both. AHS gave the option to upgrade to pay extra and upgrade. I stuck with what I had because I don't wanna learn how to use a new appliance. And it's cheaper. They work fine. I have a warranty on them.

My only problem with AHS is how long it has taken, because I thought they had a service guarantee of fixing issues within a specific time frame. I'm still waiting for American Home Shield to deliver. But it's well worth the value of the service, because if I had done this on my own, it would cost me a lot more money to replace the appliances on my own. I've used the service one other time. I had three appliance issues. It might have been the microwave again too, because the door broke. Something with the dishwasher that they wound up telling me I had to clean out the filter in the dishwasher myself. I didn't know how to maintain the dishwasher, so they taught me. I also had my washer machine. That was all Central Florida Appliance. They were lovely.

It was very warm. After three days, when they told me how long it would be for the technician to come out, I went and got me in a window unit put in that office. The wait time was my only negative. I was very pleased.

The fan still ran, but the unit would not cool. When I talked to the lady about that day, she explained what would happen, and gave me an idea of what to expect. I got an email and text from her saying who they would send and a link to the website of people they would send out, May Heating and Air, and for me to set up my times the options of my time. I selected three. They did not get back with me on any of those. Those were booked, or they couldn't do those. They sent me a text with the time that the person would be able to come out and gave me an option to be able to cancel that if that wasn't good for me. But it worked for me. My daughter called and asked them if they could do it earlier because it was hot here. They couldn't, so we left it like it was. It was for Friday morning. That was when I would be off and be home.

Before the technician came out, I got a confirmation the day before. I got a confirmation that morning telling me about what time he would arrive. He arrived. He called me before he came to make sure that I would be home. He called before he came, made sure I would be at the house. I told him that I would. So, he came out. He was a nice guy. I told him a background on what had gone. I have a contract with a heating and air here that had come out that Friday when my air went out. They told me what they thought it was. I told him that. He said there was a process which they went through to check the unit. He went through the process, found what the problem was, fixed it. He had parts in his vehicle to fix it, checked to make sure the unit cooled. It did.

I filed two service requests. I called American Home Shield on a Monday and reported that I didn't have any hot water. They couldn't get me anybody out to my house until Friday.I had no hot water and had to stay with somebody. I had to take off work on Friday to be here for the plumber to come. They had to order a part, and it was the following Friday. So, I was out of hot water for two weeks and had to make other arrangements. I pay AHS $60 a month to help me out. When I needed help, they didn't help me. Why couldn't they get me somebody out here sooner?

If AHS doesn't have enough people to cover the calls that they get, they should get more people. I have a friend who is a home builder and I talked to him. He said, "I can have my guy out there tomorrow morning." But it would have ended up costing me $3,500 for a new hot water heater. There's a give and take there, but I was frustrated. AHS did not find a solution. They just said, "We just don't have anybody available. Nobody's available to come out until Friday." I couldn't take a shower with no hot water. I was lucky that I had some place I could go. If I had to pay to stay somewhere, I would have not been happy. I probably would have cancelled my service. Other than that, I was very happy with the last service request.

We called American Home Shield for the water heater. They sent a guy out to look at it then they had to wait for approval and authorization. When they finally got that, the guy came out and installed the water heater and fixed it. We ended up having to pay a little over $1000 because it had to be brought to code. The guy had to wire in the electrical shutoff box. I didn't know we were gonna have to pay the extra. They don't tell you a lot of that in advance. I understand there are gonna be things when it comes to coding that aren't covered, but they should put that out ahead of time.

We were without hot water about four days. Luckily, the weather was warm and I understand that they just couldn't just send the guy out the same day. The most difficult part was we called a couple different times and got a different person each time. You had to start the whole thing from scratch again. But once we got it up and running and they sent a guy out, it went fine. However we got a notification saying that they were denying our claims which made we wonder how they were denying our claim after we already had it done.

I submitted a request for my AC in the heat of the summer as it was not cooling to its best capacity (not cooling over 76 degrees). I placed the request on Friday and the tech called me Monday morning. The tech from Mike's Clean Air came out and did a full inspection of my system. He educated me that my evap coil was replaced in 2021 and the unit was under 12 years old & working fine. The reason why is that my attic insulation may have not been sufficient. Although he could not help directly & my AC unit was fine (thankfully), he was very informative and gave me some pointers about running my system more efficiently. His kindness and willingness to help makes me willing to call AHS first for other issues (that hopefully won't have any time soon, lol).

About three years ago, we completely redid our kitchen with all new appliances and those warranties have ran out. We've redone everything in the house within the last five years, except one air conditioner. We have two HVAC systems. One was replaced 18 months ago, and the other one is quite a bit older. We decided to get a whole house warranty and looked around. American Home Shield was the best overall out there. However, I made a mistake of going to a website that I thought was a consumer website that provided an unbiased analysis of things. I didn't read the fine print on the website and got calls from every possible home warranty company that was out there. Even American Home Shield was part of that whole thing.

I told the people, “You guys are like used car salesmen waiting to pounce on the first person to walk in the door. You don't know that I've had three calls from three different agents or representatives from your company.” One said he was from Ohio, another said they were from Florida and it turned out that this other guy was from California. I said, “I'm not gonna do anything with your company because of that. So, please take me off your list.” I went back, did more research, dealt with a couple different companies, and went with home shield. Overall, they've been good to deal with and relatively painless.

I had three items that had issues. One of them was the dishwasher, another was the washing machine, and the third one was the range hood fan light that goes over the stovetop. ABH Appliances and the gentleman looked at all three, diagnosed them, and took photos of all the information (the serial number, model number, etc). He was in contact with me and said that he was going to order a replacement circuit board for the dishwasher. The washing machine had a leak in it. He ordered a part for that. That all started the process, and I got correspondence from American Home Shield.

A week later, the hood vent was reassigned to another company, Watkins Refrigeration and Appliance. They diagnosed it and ordered a circuit board for that as well. The parts took a couple of weeks to come in, then ABH Appliances came out and repaired the dishwasher. It worked just fine, but the washing machine continued to leak. The guy came back, looked at the washing machine and ordered another part for it. Meanwhile, Watkins came out and took the hood vent apart. They had to get a ladder, go up, and take the covering off. There was a lot of disassembly to get to the board and they received the wrong circuit board. The guy went online and it listed another one. They've reordered those parts as well. I expect ABH for the washing machine and Watkins for the hood vent to come out the next week. I would imagine the parts will come in in the next week and we'll get those fixed.

I realize that parts have to be ordered, but the time for the repairs takes a bit longer than I expected. The whole process has been going on a month now, but I got the emails and the texts from American Home Shield that said, “Yes, the parts have been ordered and your representative will contact your technician as soon as they arrive.” That happened a week or so later. Considering all my dealings with companies regarding warranties or repairs, the company that -- hands down -- is the best one out there is Costco. That's the gold standard to me. The companies have to have a playbook.

When TK Heating & Cooling left, I took a nap thinking the guy from Oldham was gonna call. When I woke up at 1:00, I gave the guy a call and he said, “Oh, I just got in the office.” I said, “You didn't get none of my message? Because I called two or three times.” It got cool that weekend.

I told the guy from Oldham, “Well, let me give you my reference number.” “Oh, I don't need that.” He talks to customers like crap. He was hollering at me and was so arrogant. He didn't do anything too. American Home Shield is gonna lose customers because I'm quick to switch. I don't care. They need to get rid of Oldham. On October 23, we put in a claim for a water heater. We had a leak in our basement, so I logically assumed it must be the water heater. American Home Shield quickly assigned me to SGY and they came out to my house. The guy went into the basement and was down there for not even five minutes, then he came up and said, "It's all fixed." I said, "Oh, great. What was it?" He said, "Oh, we just had to tighten something. No problem," then he left. I don't make a habit of going into my basement, so I didn't, but when I went down there a day and a half later to do something, there was water everywhere.

First, I cleaned it up, then I tried to see where the water was coming from and it was dripping from the bottom of the boiler. So, the leak wasn't from the water heater. I was wrong, but it would have been nice for the pro that came to my house from SGY to say, "Actually, it's not the water heater or I don't know what it is." However, he was very adamant that the water heater was the problem and it was fixed. Now, we had to clean up a bunch of water in the basement, which was already not great, and I had to put up a pan underneath the boiler 'cause it was leaking a lot.

I called American Home Shield and switched the claim to a boiler, then somebody came out, Maselli, who was fantastic. Maselli said, "Your boiler is definitely toast. It's leaking from the bottom. It's not leaking from the top. That means it's cracked." The guy came in in a day, and the next day he replaced the boiler. That was good, but then he said, "Look, I have bad news. The reason your boiler is broken is because there's a problem with your water heater and the pressure is so high that it actually blew a hole in the boiler. And that's the reason. So, I can't hook the water heater up to the boiler because if I do, it's gonna blow the same hole in the new boiler. So, I'm not gonna do it. I recommend you file a claim with American Home Shield for the water heater."

I did that then immediately, American Home Shield assigned me AJ Plumbing. I called them and they said, "Can you send a picture of your setup?" I did, and they said, "That's an indirect water heater. We don't do indirect water heaters in Westchester County. You need to call American Home Shield." Mind you, I've called American Home Shield over the last two and a half weeks 100 times, either the pros or them.

I called American Home Shield and they said, "Well, they need to call us. We can't do anything." So, they left AJ Plumbing on there for three more days, then eventually, they moved AJ Plumbing in favor of SGY, the people that originally came to my house and screwed up the water heater assessment. For the scheduled time, they gave me a date that was a week and a half later, which was not okay. I live in New York and it's cold. I have three young kids. So, hot water is important.

I called American Home Shield and they said, "You'd have to call them and you'll be able to get an earlier date." I said, "Okay, I'll call them." I called and called, but nobody answered or returned my call. Four days into that, I called American Home Shield again and said, "Okay, this is not working. Can I please get another pro or can you give me the ability to do it myself?" They said, "Nope. We have to exhaust the process." so, they left SGY in there for another day and then they assigned it to a new pro. Guess who they assigned it to? AJ Plumbing.

Now, I'm back with AJ Plumbing who can't do the work in Westchester. I called again American Home Shield and said, "Do you understand you did this?" They said, "We have to exhaust the process." They waited with AJ Plumbing for three more days, me asking for the outside authorization, and they did not give it, then I gave up on November 8th. I called Maselli who originally did the boiler and said, "Can you just please come? I can't wait any longer. I've waited about two and a half weeks." The guy came and changed the water heater. That same day, American Home Shield called me and said, "Good news. We assigned your claim to a new pro." "Who's the pro?" "SGY." So, do people see the pattern there?

American Home Shield must have realized that this was getting really bad. Somebody from the group called me and said, "We got you the outside authorization." I said, "You know what? I already hired somebody." They said, "It's okay. We understand that you had to do what you had to do. But we're gonna try to make sure that it's covered by the plan." I said, "Okay. I already did it. So, that would be nice 'cause it's just been a really not nice experience."

I reached out to the escalation group, and they sent the outside authorization. I asked some questions, they talked to the pro, and then they sent me an email and said, "Your limit for boilers and heating systems is 1,500 and it was already reached by the boiler that you bought. And because the water heater is part of the home heating system, there's no additional coverage left for that."

I talked to the pro, Maselli, and I said, "Is this consistent with your understanding?" "The water heater is a water heater. It's not part of the heating system. The boiler heats the hot water." The rep, Amanda or Christine, also said to me "Based on your configuration, your hot water heater is heating the boiler. And because of that, it's part of your home heating system. And because of that, you have no coverage because it's already been exhausted by the boiler."

We have nine policies with American Home Shield and I'm gonna cancel all of them after this. This has been a total disaster, and they've been really mean about it the whole way. They're doing, really, whatever they can to try to not honor the contract. I'm waiting for American Home Shield to resolve this, but right now, my opinion of the company is not good and I'll be sharing this to everyone I can.

Sometimes, American Home Shield doesn't cover my claims. Another thing is, I wanna be able to choose the person who comes to my house. I've had to report them to the Better Business Bureau twice. The first time was a couple years ago. They don't follow up. A guy came in my house and said I had a leak in the pipes. He said it was my air conditioner. I paid and had an air conditioning guy come out there, but he was totally ridiculous. That same company was trying to mess me over when they were putting in a furnace. More recently, American Home Shield assigned me a guy who came out and didn't fix my leak. He basically said I had too many leaks. I told him I had a leak before, then I had a leak three years ago. The guy looked up there and had said that there was something corroded. He said, "You need to replace all of your pipes in your whole house."

The guy had gotten the money from AHS and he was just ready to go. He was a horrible person. I called back and American Home Shield would call me at 10:00, 9:00, or 11:00 at night. I still had the leak and I couldn't get in contact with anyone from American Home Shield, so I had to report them to the Better Business Bureau. They had somebody else come out fast and they were ready to work. The other guy who looked at the leak said, "There's nothing wrong with these pipes, and your leak was not replaced." They sent me a letter and sent my money back. I eventually got the leak repaired, but that took about four months.

When my washer stopped working, I did a service request through the app, then I called the company to see when the appointment was. We talked over the phone, then someone came out and repaired one of the parts. His name is Eric and when he left, my washer was working. Eric was like a reprise because he had to come back. My washer was working when he left, then a week later, it stopped. He seemed honest, and I appreciated that. Ever since then, the plumbers that I had after that seemed honest. While I've had a couple of other people recently that were horrible, Eric was kind. I was about to stop with American Home Shield, but I liked Eric. I had used that company before as well, and I didn't have any problems with that.

It's been some years since I've had American Home Shield and the premium keeps inching up higher and higher. At this point, I'm either gonna cancel it or go with another company. I've had the same toilet repair four times. It's obvious I need a new toilet. Our toilet is 25 years old and I told them that, but all they would do is just try to fix it. Periodically, we'll have the same problem and I don't like the fact that I've had multiple service calls on the same item. After coming out two or three times, come on, just replace it. I'm gonna have to buy another toilet, and to replace it on my own with the company was gonna cost me $700. I said, "There's no way I'm paying $700 to have a toilet replaced."

On another claim, True Vine had to come out three times. The first time, there was a misunderstanding in what I needed. The second time, they were able to fix part of it, then I had to call back because the handle on the stove wasn't working. The stove is almost 26 years old, too. It still works, but it's frustrating to have the same item repaired more than once for the same problem.

I've had American Home Shield over the years, on and off and while the price could be better, I decided to get the coverage for the reasons like my AC unit going out. My house is 10 years old and I was recently retired. I did a claim when my AC was making a loud humming noise, and the website was great. The service person was also good, but he didn't rectify the issue. He said that he couldn't do anything because there was no failure. It wasn't humming when he got there.

I've called American Home Shield quite a few times. I've had some little things like ceiling fans breaking. My washing machine also broke, then a week later, the dryer broke. I've been paying American Home Shield all this money all these months, and I thought, “Well, I'm gonna see if this has been worth my investment.” Sure enough, I've been pleased with it.

Someone even called me from American Home Shield and explained to me that I could still get something repaired as long as it's in the same category. If my refrigerator is out, I can get my washing machine repaired and then my dryer repaired. I can do it all in one call, and I did not know that. For someone to call me back and explain that to me was very comforting and very rewarding. That made me feel very comfortable. I thought, “Well, let me get my ceiling fans fixed.” One of the switches is out. The other one in the patio only has two speeds. The technician came out and he was very good. I've been very happy with it.

Home Shield sent somebody out to fix my refrigerator. So they fixed the refrigerator. But in the process, something that they did started making something else mess up. So every time I would tell them something else was wrong, they would send somebody out from Sears, and then Sears would send somebody out. They did that a few times, but then it got to the point where now they can't figure out what's wrong with the thing.

Sears passed it on to EMJ and the dude was cool. But every time I call him, he doesn't answer my phone calls. He won't return the information. I talked to him on the 26th of October and he was supposed to get back in touch with me after he got in touch with American Home Shield on what to do. He never got back in touch with me. American Home Shield hasn't got back in touch with me either. I keep calling them. They're not telling me what's going on. All they keep telling me is that the next person to come out will take a look at it.

So now, I'm caught in this limbo where it seems like they felt like they've done enough and don't want to fix the problem that the other issue created. So now I'm in a point where they don't want to respond. Now, I'm dealing with some Easy people because all of a sudden, I've been bumped to a third person. It seems like the third people didn't want to do it because after I explained to them what was going on with the first contractor and then the second contractor, they were leery-like and said. "Well, ain't no point in us coming out if the last dude couldn't figure out and the dude before him." The service is terrible.

The one thing that I don't like about them is the weekend and night time coverage because without fail, whenever we're using this, it's always at an inconvenient time. It's never on a weekday. I know a lot of people, a lot of companies are closed at those times, but there are also a lot of 24/7 maintenance people that would come out. But it always seems like American Home Shield is okay with, “We have the 24 to 48 hours thing. And if it’s the weekend, so you have to wait until Monday.” So, that one thing is the biggest smack that I have.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield went great. I got a new dishwasher and a new refrigerator. I am still waiting on my dishwasher. The guys came to deliver the dishwasher, and it had a scratch on it. So, they are getting me another one. I'll get it next Tuesday. The contractors sent by American Home Shield have been great. Everybody that has come has been really nice and understanding, and tried to work with me as quickly as possible to get me the products that I needed or get them fixed.

I would recommend anybody that needs coverage to sign up with American Home Shield. I've used American Home Shield for about 12 years. The prices had gone up for the monthly payment. So, last year in 2023, I decided to go with Choice Home Warranty. I was not happy with them. I much prefer American Home Shield. And when I signed back up, the payment was a lot less also.

My central unit wasn't working. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield and they dispatched DNK. The guy called me and let me know he was headed my way. He did tell me he was coming from Baton Rouge, which is about 68 miles from where I live. So he told me that it would be probably within an hour and 20 minutes. When he got here, he introduced himself, and asked me what the problem was. I told him, and showed him where the outside and inside units were.

He turned on the thermostat, looked at the inside unit, and then went out, looked at the outside unit, came and let me know that my compressor was bad and that he recommended I could either change the compressor or I could do an upgrade, but that would be at American Home Shield warranty's discretion as to what they chose to do.

He presented me with a flyer that went over everything. He let me know roughly if I didn't use the American Home Shield warranty, what it would cost to upgrade my whole unit. That if I used the American Home Shield warranty, then I would be paying 50% less, but at the same time, I would get a credit for my old unit. Then he told me that, within a day or two, I would have an email from Home Shield warranty telling me what it would cost to replace it. Then upon accepting the bid, I would have to call and schedule for DNK to come out and change out my unit.

The DNK tech was very, very friendly, nice and explanatory. I just got my estimate yesterday, but it's not even a complete estimate. It's if DNK does the work, I would have to come out of pocket 2,700 to change out the condensing unit and everything else would be determined at the time that DNK showed up. American Home Shield warranty didn't even give me a full quote. So I'm very satisfied with DNK.

This is the first time we've had American Home Shield for a year. This is the first time I've ever had to use them. The response time on having someone come out was quick. I submitted a service request on one day and I didn't get an email or a text message telling me when they would set it up. I got the call from DNK stating that they received the call from American Home Shield and DNK came the same day that American Home Shield sent them the call.

I was disappointed there weren't more people on AHS' list that could attend to issues. Things don't happen as quickly when we get the service person because of where we live in terms of them getting to us. When we lived elsewhere, they would get to us within a day, especially with plumbing. Recently I ended up having the wrong person come to my house, and I had to call again, get it rescheduled, so it took another two days for me to have someone come. I needed work with the water heater, and somehow, the person put down “water heat”. They ordered someone to come in that does heating because there's something called a method of heating your house with water heat.

When the person showed up, he was the wrong person. I immediately called American Home Shield, and that technician called them too. That was quick. The person had a supervisor able to cancel that order and get me the other one. The scheduling ended up being two days later, but that had to do with the business. That person was great. He made sure he didn't make a mess. He was very good about putting on the booties on his shoes when he had to come, and very conscientious. There were a few tools he had and he took them with him.

However, right now, I'm in a battle with American Home Shield because I filed another claim and they haven't done anything. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. I'm gonna cancel with them because I can't get them out here to do anything. They make promises, but they don't show up. The first claim we had with American Home Shield was not pleasant, but the second one was. Then the third one was okay, but the vendor they had was horrible. My first attempted claim, they said, "Oh, you don't have that coverage." I told them, "Well, that's the coverage that I purchased." They said, "Oh, no. You don't have that coverage." So we went back and forth. Then they upcharged me, so I had to buy an additional policy to add my appliances. But once I added the appliances they said, "Oh, yeah, so that's not covered because now, it's an existing issue." I told them that I was calling them because I have an issue that I thought I was covered for and then they're telling me I'm not covered for it. They told me it was not covered because it was a preexisting issue. That was my horrible experience.

My other experience was with my heater, and that was very pleasant. It's very cut-and-dry and simple. My last experience was with my water heater and it was fine as far as with American Home Shield. But their vendor was from the vendor from hell. I don't know where they came from, why are they still existing, and why they're contracting with them. They were replacing the water heater and they were draining it. Then the technician left my home and went to somewhere to get some more parts. But the water began to leak inside the house again. So we called them and said, "Hey, the guy's not here. The water is leaking in the house again. We had already did the mitigation to have it all dried out."

I called 12 times and nobody answered. Then the girl came out and she said, "Oh, yeah. Okay, I'll have him come back." Then his boss got on the phone and said, "No, you guys are lying. The floor wasn't wet." I told him, "Why would we lie?" We had already paid for the mitigation, so getting it re-wet is not gonna benefit us anything. So it was a disaster. They said, "Well you can either take that water heater or not. But we're not taking the fault if the water heater is leaking again." I told him, "Okay. We just want you to stop the water, and just admit that the water heater was still leaking water." Long story short, we got the water heater in. But American Home Shield's list of people is not amazing. Their customer service is not that great as well. When we were having this issue with the plumber, we were reaching out to American Home Shield and they were non-responsive. I was on hold for over an hour. We never got a call back.

American Home Shield sends technicians out that cannot do the job, and then I have to end up paying for it privately. The first service request I filed, they sent out 3 different plumbers. None of them could fix the problem, and I ended up paying for it privately. Then when I had a problem with my stove, it was before the holidays, and I ended up having to wait 40 days before they would replace it. That was over Thanksgiving, which made it very difficult to do a Thanksgiving dinner in my home.

And then this time, we had a heating problem. Our heater would turn on, but then it wouldn't put any heat out. We called them. They sent out a technician. They came out five different times, and then they suggested that it was a $900 pipe repair. I've asked three of American Home Shield's contractors not to return to my home. They didn't know how to fix the problem after 5 times of coming out and saying, “Oh, well, I think it's your pipe that leads from the furnace to the outside. We're not responsible for that.” I have a feeling that what he did is just tried to suck me for money and that wouldn't have fixed the problem either.

I called a different heating and air conditioning service. They came out. They took the motor out, did something with one of the tubes, and charged me $20 for the fix. So when I'm ready to replace the motor for the heater in my garage, I'm gonna have them do that. If it's something that is not a complete replacement, they're useless.

I like that the response is quick. Once I file a claim, I get it dispatched and I get a contractor. I submitted my claim for repair. The contractor came out to assess the situation. They took the faucet apart, and discovered there was a broken cartridge. They ordered the new part. A week and a half went by and the part came in. They came back in and reinstalled the part. They were on time and solved the problem quickly. Over my time as a customer, there have been some claims that have either been denied or argued over in ways that I thought were a bit unexpected and not helpful. Other than that, American Home Shield is good to have, especially when you have big things go wrong with your home. Read the agreement carefully to find out which things are not covered.

I would die without American Home Shield. I have them for years when my husband passed back in '06. It was a good thing I had AHS because that's the only thing that saved me in this home. The spring broke on the garage door. The contractor was on point. He's a good guy. He did some more work before in that garage door. I liked his service, even though AHS didn't pay for a lot of it. I only had one guy that had an attitude. He got it all done, and that was it. Some of the others were a few mean-looking men. But he was a good guy at the end. He even had a little smile. Sometimes, it messed me up when my machine broke down and it would take long for the contractors to get to me just to see it. They would have to order a part, and it wouldn't be there for another week or two. But that's how it works. Sent me to the laundromat a couple of times. Other than that, they got parts on hand, ready to go. I've had good luck.

It's good to have American Home Shield because if anything went wrong inside the house, somebody would always be there. Their vendors are able to come out in a quick and timely manner. It was easy to set an appointment. The plumbers were able to come out sooner than a week, which I liked. When they came, they let me know they were 20 minutes out ahead before they got there, just in case. As soon as they saw a leak, they went right to work to see where the situation came from. Inside, outside, they checked every part, crevices in the house to get to the bottom of what was going on. I did not get that with a lot of services. However, AHS is just, “Oh, you have us.” After that, “If you need us, we're here.” They should reach out to their customers more often.

It has been easy and quick to work with American Home Shield on any transaction. I submitted a request to have my fireplaces checked out before using them in the winter of last year. They quickly alerted me to the retailer that would come out and service the fireplaces, who alerted me to when I would hear from them. Got it scheduled and took care of payment without me having to be involved. They made it straightforward to handle the issue. The tech was nice and very professional. He came and educated me on everything I needed to maintain the fireplaces, and assured me that they were in working shape. They took their time to educate me on being able to use the two different fireplace types that I have.

The only thing with a recent ticket I submitted last week AHS' app and website doesn't display all the correct stages. So, after someone came out to assess replacing a bathroom vent, online, it jumped to saying, “Your ticket was completed,” even though that was just an assessment and there was follow-up work that had to happen. They're scheduled to come back out this week. Their ticket system is misleading. Ican be confusing because I would get an alert that my ticket was complete, but all the contractor did was to assess. I didn't even have my appointment scheduled.

The guy came out and assessed it. Even the person that came out would say, “They have to give us an approval, then we'll come out and fix it.” But the ticket would not capture that entire timespan. It makes me feel like, as a customer, “Do I need to reach out and make sure they know my ticket’s still open?” Everything else is pretty straightforward. Their website and PDFs are clearly define what is covered and not. I've had a good experience otherwise.

A couple of people had to come and inspect our AC lines but didn't flush them out. As a result, those lines leaked. It leaked through the drywall and on to my carpet. The American Air guy came out and said, “Unfortunately, we're not allowed to make a modification without charging you. But you do cover this. I'm gonna flush your lines. I'm gonna go back and look at it. It does require insulation. And that's not something that your plan covers. We can cost that out for you.”

I mentioned there was another leak downstairs. I gave that man a five-star review because he went and checked that. He said, “Actually that's coming from your water heater. So, there needs to be a plumber that comes. Of course, as the AC guys, we don't do that. But if you shut off that hot water heater, this leak will stop until someone can come.” That was him being a nice guy to help us do that. He said, “I can't diagnose or evaluate, but I have one. And it's probably that. So, you do need a plumber to come and evaluate what's going on. But that would be a way to stop another leak that was there.” That was a fantastic interaction.

I felt comfortable with him. He's professional. We were making dinner, and I wanted to offer him a plate of spaghetti. But we couldn't. He was such a nice person from American Air Conditioning. I would recommend that company to anybody. However, the amount that American Home Shield was willing to pay out for what the average cost of a water heater was way low. I'm not sure where they got their math from, but they should have just told me. Why do I pay them every month if when something went wrong, they would undercut me?

They came out and looked at the hot water heater. I don't know if it was busted or if it was bad. They said that they would have to submit the claim and let me know if it was approved.

I waited for a little bit and he called somebody, and they replaced the hot water heater. I was completely thrilled with the tech. He was fast and kind. He cleaned up his mess afterward. I had American Home Shield before on a different property, and I got frustrated with them about some things. But this time around, I'm 100% satisfied. I would absolutely recommend them. I asked American Home Shield's rep to give me a call back. I'm still trying to figure out what is going on regarding getting the knobs replaced at my house in New Jersey. I haven't got an update. The guy said the pipe was old. He said he didn't feel comfortable with touching the pipe in the house. So, I said, “Okay. Fine.” He did everything to the tenant and not tell me. I said, “Are you kidding me?” She told me that he said he didn't wanna touch the pipe in the house because he didn't want to mess up or bust it. But he's a plumber. If it gets messed up, he can tell me and I gotta get that fixed or fix it. He should not just tell me he will not do that.

I told him when I contacted him that I called him all day and didn't reach him until 5:00 or 6:00. I said, “I know two things that take place because I've already experienced it with Newark. They can cut your water off inside your house, and they can cut the water off outside in front of the house in the yard. Which one could you not have completed?”

The lady told me that the shower knob is stripped. She stated that the guy said that it’s stripped, it just needs to be replaced and that the plumber can replace it. I said, “Okay. So, why is it not being replaced?” The last bit has been just waiting to see what's the outcome with AHS. I'm speaking to the gentleman to see what he submitted. I am waiting for that lady to call me back. I told them, “If things don't get a good response regarding my house in New Jersey, I'm canceling the warranty in Maryland and New Jersey.”

I told AHS to better not send that kid that came to my house in Maryland anymore. That was regarding my hot water tank. He has been there before regarding fixing something else. Horrible. Because I'm a homeowner and I can do some of the repairs myself, I had to ask him to move and do some of the repairs myself. I wind up teaching the contractors more. I wind up doing work with them. Even for my hot water tank, the guy was getting ready to leave. I said, “No. You're gonna tell me that we don't see the water coming. Then we had to do more research." That was where we saw exactly where the water came from. I'm frustrated with AHS about that one. I get enough to where it helps me. But I don't get a good experience.

Arizona Value Appliance came out. They were great. I couldn't believe it. This guy knew what he was doing. He really helped me. I didn't realize I still had a warranty on this refrigerator, and when he looked at it, he told me and he got me all the information on who to call and what to do. He's a nice guy. We were talking and I called. It was LG. Sure enough, I had almost two years left. LG came out and replaced the compressor. The guy checked. He told me what was wrong. But he didn't have to do all that.

I got ahold of them at the end of the week, and on the first day or the beginning of the week, the techs were there. American Home Shield has been good. I've had them for years. I've never had a problem. They have saved me so many times. I'm also surprised it's as cheap as it is for what they do. I pay $50 a month and $100 for a call. For my other refrigerator, they've replaced a compressor. On my dryer, they replaced the motor.

I got an automated response from American Home Shield when I submitted a claim. American Home Shield almost immediately let me know that my request was received and I would be hearing from the assigned service person within 24 hours. I spoke with Matt the very next morning. Spring Plumbing has been out several times for things over the last three years since I've owned my home. The most recent was related to a couple of things, a water main leak inside my house and a faucet issue. They were able to get everything taken care of in a timely manner.

The only complaint that I would have with AHS, is that I have had just one service company that I have had trouble with, more than once. I have requested that American Home Shield remove them because of the service person. But they were assigned to me again. But American Home Shield did reassign, at my request, someone else. It also could be a little less expensive than what it is. 'Cause mine went up just in the first year when I renewed it. The price went up substantially, which I didn't think was necessary.

Eagle Heating & Cooling came out for our heating problem. I submitted that claim online with AHS and it was fairly easy. They gave me the name and the number of the company. The tech found that there was a problem with some sensors. They cleaned the jets too and that solved the problem for me. It's working well now. Every time I would get a call for something, it would go well. I’m getting things taken care of for me. However, the only problem I have with AHS is they don't offer weekend service. I had to wait three days ‘cause it was a Friday when the unit started acting up. They couldn't get anybody out until the following Tuesday.

I don't think I would recommend it based on that alone. But we have it, so we're keeping it for now. Also, when you go to the app on the phone, it doesn't really work. It doesn't show all the categories. You have to go to a computer and check. When I went to check the water heater, there was no water heater on my phone. I had to go to my computer and log in there on a bigger screen because their mobile interface is not great.

American Home Shield is not that expensive. Also, I can talk to somebody because sometimes whatever it is that I have a problem with is not on there. I hate voice prompts. I have six dogs. They bark, and I couldn't talk to anybody because it hears the barking no matter where I go. And it would hang up me. I'd rather have the choice to just press the buttons and answer that way than just the voice thing. That's why I initially went with AHS. What I also don't like is all this back and forth with their people that they sent me.

The garbage disposal wasn't working. The first time the contractor came out, they went to look at the garbage disposal. They plugged in an extension, and he said it was not the garbage. It was electrical. He left, Rico came, went in there. He got the little light that sees if it has power. It said it was not electrical. It was the garbage disposal. He left. The garbage disposal guy came. He said, "It's not the garbage disposal. Look." He unplugged it, plugged it somewhere else where it's live. It turned on all the way. The first time, he didn't do that, didn't even sound like it was on. It buzzed. He said, "Now, it's the socket," which is electrical. Because sometimes it had power, and sometimes didn't. So, it's not working properly. He left.

I called the 31st of October. I still don't have a stupid garbage disposal. They just keep going back and forth. That part sucks. I can't use the sink because it got stuck full whatever was in there. I haven't been home in a year, so I've never used it. I put Drano. When the guy turned on the garbage disposal for a second, it did whatever it did, and started working. But it was not the sink. I couldn't use the sink in the kitchen, so I couldn't wash dishes. If I used the washing machine, all the water would come out up on the sink, because I couldn't turn on the stupid garbage disposal. It has been too long for me to deal with this back and forth crap. AHS kept sending me the same people. I couldn't get an appointment right away. They will come on the 16th. I hope that he doesn't tell me it's the garbage disposal.

The copper line was never replaced from the other unit that we had put in here and it needs to be replaced. So, that's our issue right now. They were very professional. I liked everything. The tech kept me informed. He called me almost every day or every other day, to check on me to see if there was anything. Because it took a little while for us to pay for the electricity to get hooked up over here. Because that was a propane furnace. So we went on and ordered an electric one instead of propane, because I'm on oxygen. It's safer for me to have the electric instead of the propane.

I was very happy with my experience with American Home Shield. I have zero hiccups. And I'll definitely be using them again in the future. This is my first time ever with a home warranty company. I never had a need to put a claim with them in the last year or so that I've been with them. But just recently, my over-the-range microwave went bad. So, I used them. From the day that I put in my claim to them having a technician out, to the whole case being resolved in less than 72 hours, which is a fantastic turnaround.

The service tech was there on time within the time range they were given. He came through and was clean, thorough, and very professional. There was no repair done. There was a replacement. They did offer me options, which I'm very thankful of. They did offer me a reimbursement for a Lowe's gift card or replacement or a bunch of other replacement options depending on and varying from different products and different makes and models. Instead of just making it one store specific, it's better to make it just a general use-it-anywhere gift card, because there are a lot of competitive options out there. Having the flexibility of spending the money anywhere else is definitely great.

Oasis Plumbing came out for my water heater that went out. It leaked everywhere. I had to get it replaced. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield through the phone. The claims process was smooth. The tech was cool. He was nice. He helped me out. He got it fixed. The only complaint I have is the process that Home Shield has to do. My water heater went on Monday. I didn't get it replaced until Friday because of all this red tape we gotta go through. We had to submit the claim to Home Shield, then they have to review it and that can take up to two days.

I've been with Home Shield for several years. I've even thought about even leaving them because every time it's a major issue, they only wanna pay like 10% and then the rest is me but I'm accounting for all the payments they pull out of my account every month. When my air conditioner went out which is an older model, the guy said, "You should just get it replaced because they don't even make these parts anymore." But Home Shield said, "No, we need to retrofit stuff to make it work."

So, they didn't wanna spend the money to help me get a new air conditioner. Instead, they wanted to pay $400. The whole price was like 1,214. It was a lot of money. They wanted to only pay like 400 or $200 of it, and then I was supposed to pay the rest. So, what's the whole point of having this warranty if I'm gonna be paying high dollars? And I continue to pay that, plus they take the $80 every month. So, I was not happy. They've come and helped me.

My only thing is when they start pulling these things where I have to pull money out. I needed an expansion tank on my water heater because by plumber code law in Texas, those are required now. Home Shield wasn't gonna cover that. That had to come out of my pocket. I ended up paying $500. That water heater costs $700. I could have bought my own water heater and hired someone. It did save money in the long run once you compare it with all this breakdown, but it wasn't that great of a savings.

There are some things that Home Shield covers and then I just have to pay that one fee, which is great. But I don't use them that frequently. My washing machine needed to get replaced. They gave me comparable washers that I can select from. But they were all cheap-end ones and they were like for $400. I was gonna get something nicer than that. I started with paying Home Shield $50 a month. Now, it's up to $90 a month. I've been with them for at least 10 years. So, if you add up all those payments, for what they've covered, the money that they've taken from me still equals out.

We've had American Home Shield for almost four years. The previous owner had it and we kept their services, but I hate it. The one time that we needed to use it, we got horrible service. Our furnace, which, apparently, is very old in our attic, wasn't heating our home the first time we needed to use it this year. We went to go ahead and called out. American Home Shield sent us an email saying, “Hey, schedule a tune-up for free.” I called to do that and I let the person know that I called with “Hey, the heater isn't heating.” They said, “Well, the tune-up’s just for the tune-up. But if there's anything else going on, we'll need to have somebody else come back out.” “Okay. No problem.”

When the person came out for the tune-up, they discovered a crack in the coil system and said that it was leaking carbon monoxide and that that was extremely dangerous. We have a newborn baby upstairs and an eight-year-old downstairs in our home. We had the house double-checked and the local fire department made sure our carbon monoxide things worked. Here I was calling and I had to tell American Home Shield that it was an emergency. They didn't automatically make it one, then they said, “Oh, we're gonna get you expedited service. We're gonna find you someone to come out within four hours.”

That didn't mean that they were gonna come out in four hours. To me, I thought, “Okay. Why wouldn't you just have the person who came out to say that this happened come right back and do the repairs?” It's that big of an emergency to me, but apparently, it wasn't to them and they didn't assign somebody in four hours. I ended up calling back, pissed off. They told me, “Oh, you can find somebody else yourself on your own, and then you pay it. And then we reimburse you.” Absolutely not. That did not work for me.

American Home Shield eventually found someone the next day. This was four days in and we finally got someone scheduled to come out the next day on Saturday. They came out and told us, “Oh, it's old and it needs to be replaced.” When we went through the information for that, it's $3,400 out of pocket for us to pay for it. We've paid $3,400 in the years that we've had the home warranty, and we can't get a new furnace. Apparently, they only cover the furnace and not other fees. The other fee is equal to the amount of $3,400. We've been wasting our money this whole time paying $100 a month to a service that can't provide full service to us. So, we don't have a heater.

So far, I've had no issues with Home Shield. I went up on the website and did a claim through my portal. I was told who had been assigned to me and that they will reach out. The service company reached out to let me know what day they're available to come out, and that's the point when we set up the appointment. A guy from Advanced Appliance came out for my free tune-up and checkup of my gas heating and air, and my AC central. Upon looking at my furnace, he noticed that the conductor had gone out, and he wanted to replace that. He had to call Home Shield to get the approval for him to fix it. He did everything on the phone, and I just got on the phone to confirm that I was giving him permission to fix it. When he looked at my AC unit, the condenser was also going out, and he replaced that as well.

I was referred to Home Shield from my parents because they used to have it years ago. I contacted and got Home Shield because I was having issues with my roof. I did a claim for them to come out to look at it, and after 10 minutes of getting here, the service people fixed it, then they were on their way. I like the fact that all I had to pay was the service charge instead of hundreds of dollars for someone to come out to fix something that took five minutes to fix. I've talked to my neighbor next door and they're looking into possibly getting Home Shield themselves because they have some issues they wanna get fixed.

When my AC stopped working, Extreme Heating and Air did a good job coming out for me. The particular guy they sent out was professional, punctual and knowledgeable. He explained things to me. He said a capacitor went out on it and fixed it the same day. I like that he does his thing and fixes whatever, then he leaves.

Also, when the dishwasher went out, that was unrepairable. We got X amount of dollars and got to go pick out what we wanted, which was nice. We like how fast and speedy the claim gets done. They also have so many local people in our area to provide the fast service for calls to get out to do the work.

We're still waiting to check it because it turned cold and we won't be using the AC again until next week. As a suggestion, AHS could have a not so big service fee. It's a little steep for what's going on because people don't really use it that often.

My hot water heater went out. It was making a hissing noise for a day and a half then it stopped making hot water. I went ahead and called American Home Shield. A repairman came in, looked at it, and said, ”That thing's toast.” I asked how long was it gonna be before we have hot water again. He said he had to submit a claim, wait for American Home Shield to make their approvals then I was gonna have to decide whether or not I wanted to spend the difference.

I told him it was supposed to be covered as it says on the policy. Come to find out, the hot water tank itself is the only thing that they cover, which was about $700, and my portion of the rest of that was about $1,300. At that point, I was a little pissed off. But I approved it and the dude came back and replaced the hot water tank. My biggest complaint was that I was gonna be without hot water for a period of time, but as far as the repairman was concerned, even dealing with their ladies in their office, they were extremely helpful and quick to return my calls. They got me back up and running.

I've had American Home Shield for five years. In some years, I paid the full year once a year, and the last couple of years, I've been doing it monthly for $60. The last one was $80 something. Then I turn around and gotta pay another $100 for them to come out. Then I still have to wait on their scheduling system and all of their approvals then find out they've got these technicalities. They pay for the hot water heater but the pan that goes under it and all of the auxiliary stuff plus the installation are conveniently not included. I should have just been saving that money myself and putting it into my own bank account. That way, when it came time to pay for this, I would have saved money.

I'm seriously considering canceling my policy. I'm not very happy with the product that I'm paying for. My boyfriend recently had to replace his air conditioner at his house, and that was $9000. If I had to replace an air conditioner, then it seems American Home Shield would be worth it. But for anything else I've used them for, I've found myself wondering what I'm paying for. They should have better service. They don't seem to care if I'm happy or not.

My sister and her daughter had gotten American Home Shield previously, and they had a good experience with it. As some of my appliances were starting to age, it made sense to get a home warranty. With American Home Shield you're spreading out what you pay over a long term. Recently, we had a problem with the AC unit. It wasn't blowing cold air. Several months back before we got on American Home Shield, we had another company add some freon. It evidently had a leak that was bad enough that it needed to be replaced. We did a claim with American Home Shield and they sent me multiple emails and told me that FBR was gonna be contacting me.

FBR has been great to work with. They contacted me, came out, looked at it, and told me that they'd ordered the parts and as soon it came in they would fix it. As soon as the part came in, they called me. They fixed it that day which was three weeks later after they had initially diagnosed the problems. The air conditioning unit that they replaced it with was a good brand. There was only a small separate fee that I paid for a connection on the inside unit that wasn't covered. So far, the service has been really good. I had follow-up emails to make sure that the contractor, FBR, was taking care of me. American Home Shield has done everything they promised they'd do. The app that they have has been very handy as well. It's very easy to make a claim or have a schedule or a service. I've been very pleased with that.

I called American Home Shield for the furnace. The rep who picked up the phone had great professionalism. But my problem was they were acting within their own liberty of what they can and cannot do. For the heating problem, in Minnesota weather, they could not expedite my request. It had to be treated as normal. As a result, we were almost five days without heating. Thankfully, the temperature stayed within the 50s. But if it was dropping down to 40s, we all would have been in trouble. I even called them a second time asking them why don't they expedite our case. They said it was not below 30. I had to put my oven on and blow the hot wind into the house with a fan. My children could not sleep downstairs. They all came up and cooped up upstairs, which was so inconvenient.

On the top of it, we even paid $125. The deductible is high. For every little thing, we pay 125 for someone to come and fix the problem. They could consider reducing or taking out that deductible every time a technician comes out. The replacement plan is good but because of some of the ways they're doing things, I won't recommend American Home Shield at this point unless something changes.

We were losing cooling during the day, and at night it would cool back down. The unit did that regularly, so we called American Home Shield to get somebody out to take a look at it. They said there was a leak in the cooling system that was losing coolant. They replaced a coil and a couple of other things. It's functioning fine with the exception of periodical squealing. I squirted some WD40 on the fan motor outside, and the squealing went away. The fellow came out to take a look at it yesterday and said that the motor probably would have to be replaced at some point, but American Home Shield would not replace it unless he heard the squealing, which he didn't because I had squirted the WD40 on it.

I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I had a refrigerator that had a compressor die. The compressor was under warranty. They sent somebody out to look at it but decided they weren't qualified, so they sent somebody else. He was a schemer looking to make a buck someplace and was not a very pleasant fellow. I told American Home Shield I didn't want him in my house. But this was after three weeks of being without a refrigerator. Eventually, American Home Shield decided that they were gonna buy me out, and they offered me $875 for a $3,000 refrigerator, which is ludicrous.

They told me I couldn't use that $875 to repair it, which turned out not to be true. I got ahold of LG, and they put me in touch with one of their repair companies. They came out and repaired it for me for $1,117. American Home Shield gave me the $875 and said that they were settling. I took that, gave it to the company that repaired my refrigerator, plus 400 bucks. I was without that refrigerator for five weeks and every freaking time I called American Home Shield, I got some young lady who was reading from a script and kept telling me that the thing was in review and the determination would be made in the one to two business days, which never happened. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but she told me that she put in the form to have a supervisor call me, which never happened. To have these young girls who could barely speak English try to tell me that it takes five weeks to get the refrigerator repaired was ridiculous.

I'm happy with the repair. They did a nice job on it. But American Home Shield was less than helpful. I have a letter that I've drafted that I'm sending to the President of American Home Shield. I have several names of people that did not help me. There was one young man who made a serious attempt to help me but failed because of American Home Shield’s lack of customer service. I'm really close to canceling my American Home Shield policy.

But when I had my water heater changed out, I was very disappointed in American Home Shield. They had to take the frame off to get the water heater out. American Home Shield sent these two people out knowing what they had to do at 4:30 in the afternoon. It was too late to start such a project. After two hours, they were anxious to get home and the frame was put in terribly. I had to hire someone to come back and put it together, which cost me $200. I also had to pay a $1,500 permit for it. That seemed a little bit too much and there were also other expenses with it. For what I use, it would be easier for me to hire out. For the furnace inspection, I've seen them advertised for $72.

I have a 25-year-old house and everything is breaking at the same time. This week, I did a claim for my refrigerator, and the process with American Home Shield was very easy. I've always had good experiences with their representatives. Lately, they've had reps that are ESL speakers, but they're still pretty good. They monitor themselves on how well I understood the person that helped me. I got a survey asking that yesterday, which I thought was nice. Sometimes, you can't understand them at all and it's so frustrating.

I've had six calls in the last six months, and two of them were from the same repairman. He was wonderful. The electrician I had out last week was wonderful as well. I had a different air and heating guy who cost me a lot of money so he could line his pockets. He said, "I can fix it, but all the freon ran out," and he charged me. I learned later that it was way over market price for the freon that he had to put back into it. I left a bad review on him with American Home Shield. I don't know if they're gonna quit using them or not, but I highly would not recommend him.

When the next heating air guy came out, who is the guy that normally comes to our house and he's probably been here five times in the last six years, he said, "He should have never done that. That unit should have been replaced because it's 25 years old." I was grumpy. But learned that I can go in, and if I don't like the contractor that American Home Shield has sent me, I can ask for a different contractor. They did that this week with with my appliance guy.

I've had American Home Shield for almost 20 years now in two different houses. Sometimes, they can't help me. But for the most part, I've been very happy with them. Everything has always worked. The few times when it hasn't worked, they've sent somebody else out to fix it. But I would always recommend people to check out the contractors that American Home Shield is sending to make sure that they have good reviews. If they don't have reviews, I would call American Home Shield and tell them I need a different person.

American Home Shield had an advertisement for $17 a month for the 1st 12 months then it goes to the right price after that. I went with them but my experience was really bad. Our heat and AC stopped working. I called them and told them what the problem was. They set me up with a place called Leggems Heating and Cooling. They came out, looked at the unit, and said, “This is an Apollo system where the hot water heater is connected to your air handler, and we don't work on them. We're gonna call American Home Shield and tell them that we don't work on them.” American Home Shield sent it to another place called Casamack. I got the work order assignment, and I called them to make certain that they work on them. They said they don't. I asked, "Why would American Home Shield give it to you then?” They said American Home Shield does that all the time.

American Home Shield assigned it to a third vendor, and I repeated the process. This is after an hour at least on the phone with American Home Shield, trying to get across to them what was going on. I called the vendor and they don't work on the unit either. I called American Home Shield back and they finally sent somebody out who works on Apollo. It was a blown fuse. It was a $8 part, and the guy took 20 minutes to fix it. But it took me about six hours of my time on the phone and I was talking to these folks who don't have English as their first language. However, most of this stuff is not all that complicated. They have to be able to work on this system and make sure that the people that you send do.

This is the second time I made a claim through American Home Shield. I went through their online portal to file a claim for my washing machine. It was fairly simple and intuitive. It was easy to find what you need and get through quickly. It was really convenient as well. The repairman was friendly. I let him know where the appliance was and what the issue was. He gauged the problem and was able to take care of it fairly quickly.

Since I bought my home in 2019, I've had American Home Shield, and I've been satisfied with the service thus far minus the slight increase in price. They could also provide more clarity on what additional benefits come with the policy outside of the regular services. Up until a few months ago, I wasn't aware that there was an appliance discount if you needed to replace one. But I would definitely recommend them to anyone I know who has a home or is purchasing a home as a peace of mind.

There was no power to the thermostat, and that was the reason for us calling American Home Shield. I was also getting a lot of condensation from my AC unit. The guy that came out was professional. I had no problems at all. What I like about having AHS is not having to worry about calling a plumber. Sometimes, it gets a little difficult with just trying to see what's wrong with something. It was like they wanna do a whole bunch of other stuff instead of what just needs to be done.

American Home Shield seems responsive enough and gets out to you and gets the problem solved. If you pay the money to get someone dispatched, they give you 30 days to make sure the problem's really resolved. I haven't had an issue with any of the people that they use. I seem to be getting what I'm paying for. So, that's all good.

The most recent claim I did was for an issue with our outdoor units and thermostat. The thermostat wasn't kicking on the outdoor units. So the tech came out and diagnosed things, and replaced the thermostat. The guy was really knowledgeable and professional. I liked him a lot. They did a good job. I need to call them back because we had an issue with the outdoor unit kicking on again last night. He was the one who let me know, if anything happens, to call them back. Things could happen and there's 30 days. I just haven't got the time to call them back.

The technicians have all been great. Everyone that I've talked to seemed to be respectful, professional, knowledgeable, answer any questions that I have on things, and seem to be honest. I'd rather go through American Home Shield than go directly to a service provider because I feel like there's less incentive for them to potentially upsell on something. Whatever that deal they have with American Home Shield, it's easier to trust whatever they're gonna work out. The only issue I ever had with AHS was when we need to get our dryer replaced. It seems like I had to chase them down a little bit and make more calls than I wanted to. So, that was a little frustrating.

The contractor that American Home Shield sent most recently was really good. The specific problem that I had was with my washer and dryer. It took three visits out here to get it right. First, American Home Shield wanted to charge us that $100 deductible for both of them, even though it was one visit. The actual contractor made it so we didn't have to pay both of them, which was a good thing for us. Right now, our washer and dryer both work. The dryer gets extremely hot. It didn't get hot before like that. It's a little scary but they say that's the way it's supposed to be. Other than that, it works fine.

They sent me a text when they were on their way over to my house as well to give me heads-up. They were very helpful. This service ticket was great. This is how I would expect the process to work. But the service request I had right before this was for my dishwasher, and that was not a great experience. It took over two months. I put in a claim thru the AHS app to get the fridge fixed. Two technicians came in, and they looked like they knew what they were doing. They were very professional and went straight to the point. They asked me what the problem was and I told them it was making weird noises. They troubleshot the unit and taught me what was wrong with the fridge. I got a little bit of knowledge because I do a lot of the DIYs. They told me they were gonna put the part in order. Usually, when somebody tells you they're gonna put the part in order, you don't hear from them for a while. But they followed up with a text message and calls. They told me, “Your part’s in order. It’s on time. It will arrive and we're gonna install it the next day." They set up another appointment with me, and they got it installed in less than 10 minutes.

The AC technician was freaking awesome. He taught me a lot of things, and I could almost DIY if I wanted to. But the electrician that American Home Shield used to send is not great because he wasn't fixing the problem. If I tell him the GCFI is tripping, instead of troubleshooting the circuit breaker, he would just change the GCFI. He was going straight to the point instead of going above and beyond like the rest of them. But otherwise, you save a lot of money using American Home Shield because repairs are usually 500. You're paying that price, but you're not paying it all at once. You're paying it monthly. American Home Shield is amazing. I love it and recommend it to all my friends.

Most of the service providers tend to side with the homeowner, and we've had a lot of situations where we've gotten replacement appliances instead of trying to fix appliances. We got a new dishwasher, a new microwave, a new stove, and a new furnace. The furnace itself was fine, but one of the pipes that connected something to it was leaking condensation, and they didn't sell that kind of pipe anymore. The repairman said, "Technically I could build or jerry-rig a pipe to make it work,” but since they officially didn't sell the part anymore, he was able to get it as a replacement. But when you have to call American Home Shield on the phone, their customer service is crappy. The people are based in another country and they don't know the things that we have here. When I've had to tell them there was a leak in my well room, they didn't know what a well room is.

American Home Shield is the best of the worst. Their price keeps going up, and the services keep getting more expensive. Also, you can't talk to anybody in this country. Nobody has any power to do anything. But according to Consumer Reports, they were still the best. I'm finishing an issue today. They're supposed to be delivering a new oven today. The oven was repaired. Four years ago, they took the control unit out of it and sent it off to Massachusetts to be rebuilt because the parts were no longer being manufactured. It's a 12-year old stuff. It came back and it worked fine. Two years later, I pay for four service calls in this oven and been paying stuff.

In July, I called in a claim. The oven set off the alarm, set off the code, and it wouldn't work anymore. AHS sent folks out. Again, I paid a deductible. The folks said, "Okay. We'll see, check on parts availability.” They forgot to call American Home Shield. Three weeks later, I called back. They had to start the claim all over again. They came out and said, "Sorry. The part is not available. American Home Shield will call you." American Home Shield called me and said, "We'll give you an option. It would cost us $315 to send it off for repair or we'll give you a check for 315 and you go buy a new oven." You can't buy a new oven for $315.

We've already repaired this once and it didn't work. The lady said, "I'm sorry. This is all we can do." It's been escalated by then. They came out and took the part out. Three weeks later, they brought it back. They put it in. The guy turned on the stovetop and the burners burned fine. He turned it to bake, and the oven heated up. He turned it to broiler, and it popped all my circuits and the code came back on. The guy came back and said, "I got good news and bad news. They didn't fix the part right. And American Home Shield's gonna have to buy you a new oven."

It took American Home Shield a week and a half to two weeks, just to get that information and back from the vendor. We had to wait on them to get in touch with the contractor who didn't respond very well. The oven was supposed to be here on Tuesday, and it didn't make it, but it's coming today. I've been without an oven since July 31st. It's a deal but it's not a big deal. I have enough cooking appliances. I can live on a big green edge for the rest of my life.

The guys who did the work were great. They were doing the best they can. The folks on the phone don't come out anymore and look at the appliance. They want you to do a video call and they're arrogant. Typically, when I have a problem, I need to talk to somebody, and the app doesn't help me. It just happened to catch me on a day when they're supposed to be here between 8:00 and 12:00.

Quality Construction took a month to come out. My daughter had moved out of her bedroom until they could fix the drywall for us. I finally got them to come. I was not here but my wife was. The repairman rang the doorbell but our doorbell doesn't work and my wife never heard anybody at the door. She could have heard a knock. They told us they stayed 10 minutes then drove back to Denver which is an hour away from us.

I was disappointed and asked if they could come back. They said it was gonna be another week and gave me an attitude. I could understand that they had rules and was frustrated because no one answered the door. But I had left a message saying I was gonna leave the house for about half an hour and to call me when they were getting close ‘cause I was only 5 minutes away at a gym. He aid that he had called and left a message for me. But I looked on my phone and there was nothing. It has never shown up. Whoever he called, he didn't have the right number but he insisted that he did.

I got online with American Home Shield, and I put the complaint in. I thought maybe they would send someone else or use another company, ‘cause it was weird that they were way out in Denver. It was a pretty small job, only a 2-foot square piece of drywall that needed to be patched up after a plumbing problem. We still have the hole in the wall and I've been waiting to hear back from American Home Shield. I'm considering paying a friend to do it but I shouldn't have to pay. Oaks Heating & Air came out, checked my air conditioner unit, and discovered that the fan on the outside condenser died. The repairman told me he didn't have a motor in his truck, so he had to get one. The next day, he called me up, told me he found a motor, and asked when would be a good time to come out for him to put it in. I told him as soon as he wanted to. It was two o'clock in the afternoon and they came out and installed it. They were very fast, efficient, and nice to do business with. When I asked questions, the repairman was very informative to provide the information that I was asking about. I really liked him.

When I bought this house in 2008, American Home Shield came with it as a home warranty, and I continued to use it. The reps are very friendly. They try to accommodate you. But there have been some times in the past where they haven't been so accommodating because they couldn't find anybody to come right away.

The main thing that could be improved is trying to find service professionals that are able to get out and come to the warranty claims on a really quick basis. This claim was really quick. They were able to come out the very first day which was nice. But I've had some in the past where I had to wait a few days, and it's not that convenient sometimes, especially if it's a hot summer and the air conditioning unit dies and you have a kid or a baby in the house. Also, the price is a little on the pricey side because it keeps going up every year. I'm paying over $100 a month now for the service. But overall, American Home Shield is a good warranty company. I'm very happy.

I'm using American Home Shield twice this month. I had a dishwasher that was leaking water at the bottom. I was able to get on the American Home Shield website, and it was very easy to search what I was looking for. Once I input all the criteria, they quickly assigned a pro to that work. A day or two later, I saw that the $100 fee came out of my account. I called American Home Shield to ask how the process works. If the contractor says it needs to be replaced or they need to order replacement parts, do I need to worry about the additional cost. They rep told me the only thing that I should have to pay is that $100 fee and everything else should be covered.

Once the fee came out, I had to call the pro and schedule a time, which I was able to do easily. When he came out, he assessed the dishwasher and told me that the piece that allows the water to go from the dishwasher and drain into the hose into the plumbing, there's a rubber seal that over time breaks from being used. There was a slight hole in the one that I had, which caused the leak. He said it's a very common thing and that he was sure he had one in his truck. If he did, he would swap them out. If not, then they would have to order the parts. Luckily, he had one in the van and was able to replace it on the spot. The dishwasher has been working fine since.

For my heater tune-up, I received a confirmation this morning stating that this person would be coming out tomorrow to service that. I'm hoping that the process for tomorrow is as seamless as it was for the dishwasher. Overall, I've had a great experience with American Home Shield and I have recommended them when I had to take my dog to the vet later on. The lady behind the counter said she'd been wanting to look into them for years but she hadn't heard anybody that had them. I told her I just used them and they were great.

The first time I had an electrical issue at this house was last August 2023, and I've had to pay. I've had to call and call American Home Shield back when there's been this outage. It turned out there was a bad wire in one of the outlets in the home. The repairmen that were sent didn't find that at the time. They kept doing other things. I don't know what they were doing other than leaving my panel open and then leaving.

I was out of town for three weeks taking care of my mom just recently. I just got back a couple of weeks ago. I came home, and they had come out. I had a friend meet them over here. The electrician left the main panel open and five of the breakers turned off. One of those breakers was for my refrigerator. My refrigerator had no power for eight days. So, I had to throw everything away from my refrigerator.

The main thing is if they had fixed it when I called them last year the first time, I would not have had to make these multiple copayments for the same thing because they considered it a separate dispatch. My frustration is it should have been resolved the first time and it wasn't. It took all of this time. This happens a lot with them. I feel like I've paid too many costs associated with them having to come out repeatedly when it really is the same thing.

I'm very good about following up with that stuff now. Sometimes they get very busy, and I don't follow up but I have let them know. They have sent people out. It's not like they've charged me every single time they've come out here for this issue, but I've paid at least four fees for them to come out just on the electrical issue. I've been dealing with it for over a year. I'm just hoping that it stays good this time because every other time something else has happened and they just haven't found the problem. So, I really hope they solved it. In fact, I seemed to have worse problems after the very first time I called them last year for an electrical issue. I don't know what happened, and I've never seen the same person come out twice.

It was the same thing with my dishwasher. I've had to call them out multiple times. It still doesn't work right. The plumber thinks that it's water pressure. I was like, "Well, then fix it. How do you fix that?" They give me no answers. There are no solutions. I can never reach a person when I try to go to American Home Shield, which is fine. I own my own business. I like putting things in writing, but it's very frustrating sometimes when there is a misunderstanding or a miscommunication about whether a project has been completed or not.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. I'm on my own now and it's nice to be able to depend on them. I've had two claims with them in the year and 3 months that I've had them. Recently, Illuminate Contracting came out. They thought the problem was fixed. But they had come out again because the problem reoccurred within an hour after they left. It ended up being the breaker. Originally, the claim was with Washington Electric Services. But it was a week and a half of problems with them. It took a while for American Home Shield to turn it around and give it to another contractor. I heard from Illuminate that they constantly are getting calls that Washington Electric Services aren't responding to. I called them 24 times and left multiple voicemails ‘cause I missed their one call. But they never responded back. American Home Shield needs to get rid of them.

We moved up to Fresno area 33 years ago, and when my wife and I bought a house, American Home Shield came with it for a year. It's a good idea with any home to keep up that kind of coverage. This is the second home here that we have the coverage on and it's like an extra insurance policy. The price is getting a little steep though. When their contractors come out for a service call, they raised their price to $100 now. It used to be $50. But I'm grandfathered into an old contract with American Home Shield so the coverage is a lot better than these new contracts. I have recommended a friend of ours who bought a new house to continue with American Home Shield.

Recently, our water heater went out on a Saturday. I called American Home Shield that night and they originally assigned the claim to this company called City Plumbing. They were supposed to call within 24 hours but they never called. I've also had issues with City Plumbing before and I don't want them back on my property. I called American Home Shield and asked for another plumbing outfit to come out.

National Plumbing came out and they were wonderful. They came out that same day to diagnose the problem. They were booked up, but they squeezed us in because it's getting cold and we had no hot water. They ordered the parts and the next day, the gentleman came out and he installed it. It was late at night, but they were very fraught with the situation of no hot water. They were very sympathetic. But in this last case, I was very dissatisfied because American Home Shield didn't get somebody out here immediately. We got no hot water but American Home Shield was not sympathetic. They had to confirm the cancellation of City Plumbing before they could even do a work order for the new plumber, and that was not right. That delayed everything out for another day and a half.

The companies we've used through American Home Shield have been extremely quick to respond. They call before they show up and are timely. They put their little booties on to come in the house. They provide good information as well. They're very communicative on what's going on and what they fix. They also quickly respond back with the paperwork. So far, our experience has been fantastic.

Recently, the fans were rattling. It's in a condominium, so it's one of those thin air conditioners that's inside a drop-down ceiling. A repairman came in and did the regular checks on the unit then he started working on the rattling stuff. He adjusted the fan motor and tightened the fan housing. Some of the screws over time had backed out a little bit. Once he tightened those up, the rattle went away. He went outside for the outside fan. It was more of the grate on top of the outside unit that was rattling and he tightened those down. It was a pretty quick resolution and I was very happy with the service.

We also had to use them for a humidifier that wasn't working properly, and they got that fixed as well. I felt very comfortable with the technicians that did all the work. It didn't take either of them very long, less than an hour. We just had to pay the $100 copay which was reasonable.

I submitted two requests to American Home Shield, one was for a refrigerator, and the other one was for a spa. The contractor that came out for the refrigerator did an excellent job. It went seamlessly smooth. But the way American Shield has it laid out on their website that it's pool and spa. So, if you have troubles with the spa, not the pool, they send you to a pool contractor. So, that one never got resolved. I've never heard back from anybody and, yeah, it is what it is. It's still an issue. I haven't heard back from anybody. It's pertaining to a spa, not the pool. But the way it's grouped, it's pool and spa and then it only gives you a couple of check box parameters.

A pool contractor called me and said, "Well we don't work on spas." So, the only way American Shield could do it is that the contractor has to contact the customer and then they have to call back to American Shield and let them know, "Hey, we don't work on those things. You need to assign another contractor." But if you look at the app and you track the progress of those requests, they closed it out like it was finished and repaired and done, but it's not true.

When the Splash Pools came out, they told me that they fixed my filter, and then they told me that we had to redo all of our electrical. Our voltage was 110, and they put on a 220, and so they were telling us we had to rewire everything. When my husband got home, he said that they put the wrong thing on. So then I called AHS to let them know that the service was not done and our filter was not fixed. That was in August, and now we're in November, and it never got done. So Splash Pools came out again just a couple of weeks ago, and the gentleman was extraordinarily nice and very helpful, unlike the first people that came out. He said there was nothing he could do for us until we put more water back in the pool and we can run the filter again, because right now it's closed.

I had to continue to call AHS because they kept telling me that they were gonna call me back, and that's why it's November and it never got fixed. I called them three separate times before. I wrote all the stuff down about what was wrong and I told them all the stuff to make a case. I had to repeat myself every single time I called back, and every single time, they said they were going to be in contact with me within 48 hours. But I never heard from them. So my pool is out of sight, out of mind. It's not swim season, so I would let a couple of weeks go by and that's where we are today. So I have zero positive things to say about AHS. I've told my husband that as soon as we can attain a certain savings level in our savings account, I'll probably cancel them because they're a waste of money.

A-US Air was good. I wish they'd had everything they needed to work with. They didn't have a two-wheeler to pull the unit around. There were two guys and it was a good-sized unit. Thank goodness, I had a two-wheeler in my backyard they could use. And then to put the unit on in the backyard, they needed a shovel. Thank goodness, I'm a shovel owner. Then they got through on the inside and he wanted a Shop-Vac, and not every home has a Shop-Vac. So, I just wish that they've had a little bit more equipment for them to work with. I hate thinking about these people messing their backs up because they don't have the proper equipment to do these installs. It was just a 2.5-ton unit. So, it's a smaller unit. If it had been a bigger unit, they didn't have a two-wheeler.

I wish they had better stuff. Hopefully, in the future, they'll get their trucks stocked a little bit better for those guys because I hate anybody hurting their backs. As far as American Home Shield, they were excellent. They take care of me and I've had all kinds of things happen this year. I had a refrigerator go down. I had all kinds of stuff go down. American Home Shield sent somebody out who took off the handle and replaced what looked like an element in the middle. It's like long, thin, metal thing stick, and he put the handle back on. The tech was very polite, very professional, and very quick. The handle actually twists nice and easy. It was a real obstacle before, so there was definitely a problem. So it's working perfectly now. There's no more dripping and no more burning yourself with cold.

I initially had a contract with American Home Shield for a couple of years. Then things became financially difficult and I discontinued with them. I became a licensed Realtor and I got a discount with American Home Shield because they're under the Berkshire Hathaway. So, I reactivated my contract. It's the best thing that I've ever done because you never know when something's gonna happen and when it happens, you usually don't have enough money to replace the item or the cost of fixing it. Independently, it's always more expensive.

But so far, all have been very professional and taken care of me. I sent in a claim when my heating unit wasn't staying on. It would come on and cut off. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was pretty easy. All I had to do is go in there and then whatever appliance or the problem was, you just look it up and you describe what was the problem, and that was it. The contractor was very professional and friendly.

The technician was very knowledgeable and on time. He told me that the situation was that during the summertime, we don't use the heat, so it might be some rust on the ignition. So he said, “Turn it off, turn it on a few times.” He said that would usually take care of the situation, but if it doesn't, give him a call back and he’ll come back out and do something different. He seems very knowledgeable of the system itself. You can’t beat his professionalism. He came in and spoke courteously.

My first call to American Home Shield was set up by phone. A technician came out. He looked at the furnace and said he couldn't fix it. He said something about the wiring and that it wasn't up to specifications and that he couldn't fix it. American Home Shield wouldn't approve it. However, he could go ahead and do what needed to be done, but it would cost me $800 for him to do it. I told him, "Well, thanks. See you later."

I called American Home Shield again and got a different company to come out. I just answered program questions and they sent another company out, and they fixed it. The gentleman's name was Chad. He fiddled with it. He thought he had it fixed. It worked while he was here. He left. It quit working. I called the company that he works for. They sent him back. He spent about a good little time on it. He had a motherboard in his truck, and he replaced it. It's been working fine since.

As far as I'm concerned, Smart Choice is somebody I wouldn't recommend. Affordable Heating is somebody I would recommend. It ended up costing us $200 total because it was two different service calls, and I understand that. I'm happy with them. This is not the first time we've called American Home Shield. On a whole, they're fairly good. It's a shame you can't call the people that you normally would call. They're not on their repair list. Other than that, I'm well-satisfied. American Home Shield can't be blamed for Smart Choice. The only issue I had with them is the first time I called, it was very difficult to understand the operator and trying to get across what the problem was.

I bought a building in 2022, and I bought American Home Shield to go with it. I bought an insurance policy so that my tenants are not without for too long, and that is not what happened here. In the past, AHS' contractors have been out and fixed things in a timely manner. But the thing that I take exception to is I cannot seem to get anybody over there at AHS to take a look at this company and my position is “I'm canceling my policy, and I did, because you work with people like this, and you're not examining anything that I'm trying to tell you about these folks. And I can't count on you, therefore." Do not buy it. It's a scam. I don't recommend anybody buy a home warranty.

I got in touch with AHS to tell them that my tenant called and said the air conditioner was loud. It was not the first time that AHS sent Foxcroft HVAC to this place. They are based four hours away from where I live. That's the only HVAC company that they would send me. Those folks try to consolidate their trips. They do not try to come out here to do jobs every other day.

They came out, told me that I would need a part. The part got ordered on October 10th. When they were there, they shut off everything. That meant my tenant had no heat either. I started to call, “What's up with these parts?” Once I called and complained, they were, “If you complain, we're gonna slow down the parts.” I went to Google Maps and took screenshots of 28 reviews and slammed AHS on my review. One of them is a woman who complained that the dispatcher said, “If you complain, we're gonna slow down the parts.” That is exactly what they did to me, so my tenant was without heat for over a month.

I would call AHS and have to break through in order to get anything done. I would have to escalate my call every time. I would talk to somebody, and, “There's nothing we could do. This is the only people we're offering.” The whole thing was crazy. It’s a scam. After many phone calls back and forth with AHS, I said, “I'm filing a complaint with the State Attorney General's office because this is ridiculous. My tenant had been without heat for 31 days at that point. They sent Valley Mechanical out there. They came out, looked at it, went back with the parts which took them 2 days to get, and fixed it. It was a stupid blower wheel.

The contractors showed up, we chatted and they did the work. I haven't called American Home Shield to have somebody else come out which would be the first indication that everything was good.

    Thanks for your vote!
