I am a real estate professional & now a customer of AHS. Until American Home Shield can keep its promises, I will never recommend them to my customers! I would not want to put them through what I have had to endure. Over 1 month & my stove is still not working! First contractor came twice then second contractor 3 times. I have been on hold and given the run around with American Home Shield more times than I can count. Still trying to get this resolved! Literally hours with no results. Will keep you posted!

The Sundance service installed a new a/c in Aug 2017. We went to use it for the first time this year 2018, and would not cool the house properly. I made a service request the beginning of July and AHS has given us the runaround on it. Had the original company come out and they stated there was no problem with it! The other company came out and found the problem and AHS would not approve the company to fix it, then the company that installed it was not going to come back out till September... (Well summer here in Oregon is over)!!! So, I got tired of the runaround and hours of calls being on hold and call dropped from their company that I paid the company that found the problem out of pocket a lot of money!!! But now my AC works perfect!!! I will be filing against this company... You can't ever get in contact with anyone at the corporate office, and all their customer service reps are from overseas!!!
Updated on 09/26/2018: I had contact with the company and Consumer Affairs and my previous review states that it was resolved, and has not been resolved!!! I asked why it says resolved and Consumer Affairs stated that the company themselves stated it has been resolved when actually it has not been. It was stated that the would refund only $400.00 and to this day I have not rec'd a check. This company never follows through and they state that I still owe them for a service call of $100.00 and this service call billed is for them coming out and having the improperly air conditioning unit install checked out. I paid another company to come out and fix the improper install of the a/c and it is working perfectly now!!!

We call American Home Shield up if we got a problem and we've been really happy with the people we speak with. We had a dishwasher thing going on and they responded within a good time after we submitted the claim. They had to order parts. It took a little while but they delivered it in the time they specified. Then they came and put it in. Overall, it's fine. It's an older appliance, so they'll keep replacing parts until such time that there's no more point in replacing them. In which case, we have to get a new one. Nevertheless, they have professional service. We've also had other things that they've come to do consultations on and they've always been very helpful. American Home Shield is a good product.

I started a claim for my ceiling fan. AHS sent a technician during the promised time. Until this point, I was satisfied with the service. My fan could not be fixed, so they gave me two options: 1. Replace it with the one technician had on his van (white and cheap), mine was stainless steel and high end. 2. Buy out the program. I accepted the buy program, and it has been 3 weeks and I haven't heard from this company. I have called 4 times (waiting time is 40 60 minutes every time I call)... They keep telling that the buy out Department will call me within 24 hours. Nothing has happened!!! I have heard the same apology and the same promise and to this day no one has contacted me. You can not talk to a supervisor because that is another 30 minutes on hold before you get disconnected. What kind of service if this? Paid $75 for my claim and still don't have a solution. Can't wait to get this resolve and drop this company.

We have lived in the house for a couple of years and the two different AC units that we have passed all inspections when we moved in. But, we were not getting good air flow from the master bedroom through the left side of the house. Also, the other side of the house had a very similar issue. This summer is a little hotter and the master bedroom window faces the east. The guy sent by American Home Shield went up in the attic and checked it. He did his test on the temperature on each one of the vents and said that they came out good but it was not going from room to room. I didn’t get what he did and the problem was not fixed.
The guy was very pleasant and professional. He said that the filters needed to be changed and I told him that they were changed four days prior to the day he changed them. So, it was not the filters that were causing the issue. I just wished he fixed the problem but he didn't have any solution other than saying that we need to have all our vents rerouted. We also had the same kind of problem last year and the air conditioner guy came and checked both my units. He said that it needed Freon but it didn’t fix the problem either. We have been using American Home Shield for a long time and we have had it in this house for two years. Whenever we submit a claim online, it went smoothly. I submitted a refrigerator claim before and Allen Appliance Service did a great job.

My washer wasn’t spinning and it was getting stuck. When I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone, the reps asked me what was wrong and they gave me a work order number. The contractor, Airboss Mechanical, came really fast. I called on a Sunday and they came on Monday. The tech told me about the piece that needed to be replaced. But the first time he came out, he replaced the wrong piece. Nevertheless, the washer has been working fine since the repair. Having this warranty on my property is a good thing. Although I had some problems a while back, AHS has been pretty good to me.

The air conditioner in our home in Tarzana was not cooling and American Home Shield sent Lux Air Engineering after I sent a claim online. The online claims process went fine and the site was user-friendly. I got the contractor's number, I called them, and the tech came in the afternoon of the same day. He said he would be there, came within an hour, did what he had to do, and then left.

There was an issue with my stove-top and microwave and I filed one claim for those two different items with American Home Shield. I filed the claim over the phone as I prefer to talk to a person so if there were any additional information needed, I could get it. The wait time to talk to a person is a bit much though but that’s understandable. The contractor that they sent was excellent and this experience was a good one. The previous experience though was the worst ever.
I called in reference to my HVAC system and I was told by American Home Shield that they would pay $10 for each pound of refrigerant needed. The person that came out to my home didn’t do anything. All he did was tell me that I needed 6 pounds of refrigerant and that the cost of the refrigerant was $150 per pound. I understand that refrigerant is expensive but the main thing that he tried to do was to upsell me to get a Trane HVAC system. When I explained to him that I didn’t have 150 times six today, he didn’t do anything. It was extremely hot that day and I had to go without my AC until I got a second opinion.
I called someone else to check my system and he said that there’s no way a closed system would need 6 pounds of refrigerant and if there was a leak, it should have been fixed. I only needed 3 pounds which I could afford, so I got someone else to do the job. American Home Shield attempted to recover their $100 deductible, which I didn’t owe because the guy didn’t do anything and he didn’t tell me the truth. AHS has been great though. To think that a person will come to your home and fix something on that day is not the way it works. They are an insurance company. They’re gonna come, just like sending in an adjuster out to your home, to observe the situation. Once they observed it, they get back with American Home Shield and then they come to do the repair, so it’s gonna cost at least two half days of work to get one repair done. But with any insurance company, once you understand that concept, you’re fine.

My water heater busted and leaked. I came home and there was a pool in my garage. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was fine and everything went fast. I did it over the phone and my interaction with the AHS rep was good. The only thing that I didn’t like was when I requested a company that normally went out to my house in every plumbing issue, I wasn’t allowed to pick that company which was weird. However, it turned out to be okay because the company they sent turned out to be a decent company and repaired the problem. They were great and they did what they had to do. We got hot water now and I was happy with my experience with American Home Shield.

There was a leakage through the ceiling and the AC didn’t seem to be cooling. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The techs came back so many times because they didn’t do their job right. They didn’t fix all the leakage. They left the pipe hanging up there. It wasn’t just leaking through one pipe. It was also leaking through another pipe. The first guy was great. He was really helpful but he missed a lot of things. When they came out the third time, they said it was a plumber issue. So the plumber came out, but he said the issue was part of the air conditioning system. They were kind of ticked off so I ended paying an extra service charge.
I also keep getting emails from AHS saying I owe yet another service charge when I shouldn’t have to pay that second one in the first place. I called three times and they said they have corrected it but I still get the emails. Even so, the AC is working now. AHS signed another person, and a lady came out. She was the owner of the company and she came just to see what happened. And then, the techs fixed it but they almost made it sound like it was a new thing. They tried to get another service fee out of it. But it was their screw-up.
They also left all their garbage up there. The ductwork was hanging off. I didn’t call about that because I didn’t know what was happening but that was part of it when they came back up. They noticed the ductwork from the air conditioning was hanging right off. So the attic was getting air conditioning but not the lower part of the house. That was part of the problem. They didn’t even notice that until the last time they came. And then, they kind of haphazardly taped it up, and then it fell off again. So I had to go fix it myself.
Good morning Bruce,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience and the air conditioner repairs were completed. Per the review, I understand that there was a leak causing secondary damage as well as duct work modifications. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve any issues that have occurred.

My wife passed away, and I just sold my house and moved to an over 55 community. I got AHS as security and it’s very good. My AC didn’t work and it was getting hotter so I called AHS and the rep was very good. I had to wait through the weekend, which was understandable. Two gentlemen came out right after that and I told them where everything was. They were very nice and accommodating and they checked that the issue was the capacitor. I paid the deductible on my credit card and everything’s working fine now. A warranty is very valuable to have.

My tenant said that the air conditioning wasn't getting cold. It had already been serviced before and then this time, American Home Shield sent the company, Bestway Mechanical who are awful. They don’t call back and don’t communicate. They told my tenant that there was mold inside but there wasn’t any. They were supposed to contact me again to schedule how to clean it but they never got back to me, and I couldn’t get in touch with them. I would never recommend using them at all. I finally talked to American Home Shield and they were able to get another company but they said that they don’t clean ducts. So, I went outside American Home Shield and I contacted a different rep, and they took care of it.
Now, the AC is fine but I was debating whether or not to cancel all three American Home Shield policies that I currently have on my three homes. The customer reps I spoke to at American Home Shield were very responsive and they worked very hard to get a resolution. They really were sympathetic to my situation. So, it's two-fold. American Home Shield is no better nor worse than any other warranty program. They try to fix stuff with duct tape until it blows up and they have to replace it, but they are competitive when it comes to the other ones. They just need to do a better job at their vendor selection.

The igniter on our stove went out as well as the heating element on our dryer. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online and they sent a tech within the day for the first item and about two days for the second item. However, parts were not readily available so that was a little frustrating. They took a little while to get the parts, but other than that, we’re good. The AHS service and the contractor were great. They did their thing, stayed in touch and let us know what was going on. Everything was taken care of and we’re happy.

I had air-condition problems so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. AHS sent me an email stating the name of the company that would be contacting me at a certain time and the contractor was ahead 24 hours to notify me. The contractor did an excellent job and I really enjoyed working with him. So far, the AC has been going great. He charged the AC up with Freon and everything has been fine ever since. I've pass AHS on all the time. As matter of fact, a few people got American Home Shield just because of what I've told them.

We had a refrigerator and dryer problem so we filed a claim with American Home Shield. We did it online and it was very easy. Their reps have been really good so far. Most of the time, the work gets done, but many of their contractors have not been very friendly. There had been a language issue in many cases but at the end of the day the appliances were fixed, which was the most important part. The appliances are old and I don't know how much longer they have left but American Home Shield seems intent on fixing something instead of replacing it.

Water was leaking out from the fridge. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield then someone came by and took care of it. Their online process was easy for this particular claim, but for the other ones I submitted, it was a little vague. For another claim I had, I called the folks who were gonna come in to fix the issue but they said it did not come through properly for them. It was because when I submitted the claim online, I didn’t have any way to add a description, although there was a set of checkboxes I needed to check that closely matched the problem.
One time, I talked to someone and it was a very good call because they were able to ask the right questions, add comments to my claim, and schedule the service call properly. Then, I had a plumbing issue and the contractors who came out did a good job. The issue was addressed, but professionally speaking, it was a little odd from not knocking on the door before coming in to the way they responded to questions. Other than that, I experienced same day repair for the claims I filed and I didn’t have to follow up because the issue was fixed during the service call itself. The coverage is great with American Home Shield and they are the only company that has a comprehensive coverage. Their warranty is also cost-effective. And due to that reason, I also subscribed with them for my investment home.

I call American Home Shield to submit a claim and I prefer talking to somebody here in America. I'm not happy with the last claim we made for the dishwasher. Percy’s Appliance never called and no one showed up. We were tired of waiting so my husband fixed the dishwasher instead. On the other hand, we made a claim for our air conditioner when its fan went out and Sun Service came out very quickly and fixed it. My husband talked to the contractor and he took care of us. AHS is a good company.

We have a two-storey house and our air conditioner didn’t seem to be cooling as it had been in the past. The heat rises in the summer and I wanted to have someone to look at it to make sure that there wasn’t some issue. My wife submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and a technician from a company that they contract with called after. He set up a window of time to come, but we never heard from him and he did not show up or call. We were about to leave the house at around 6:00 when he finally called and said that he could not find our house. We wanted to get it done so we gave him directions then waited and he showed up.
The guy was nice. He explained how busy he was and that he would be working past midnight that evening. He took care of the issue and found the filter that we didn’t know the location in the house. He got it cleaned out. He also cleaned the outside portion of the AC unit with some deoxidizers then checked everything. It was a quick call for him. The cooling on the second floor improved and the air conditioner seems to be working fine now. The filter was just dirty and it wasn’t able to cool the whole house the way that the unit that was installed was designed to. I was very happy with it.
We had to pay AHS 80 bucks per call. The way I look at it is that we could have called the technician and paid about that or more directly. But since we had this, we decided to go on that route. They have a log of the things they come out for so if the air conditioner continued to have issues for the next 30 days, they will come out free of charge and handle it. We made a couple of claims that made it worthwhile for us to renew for another year -- we are on our second year with them.
At one point, it was disappointing, however, that the major repairs the gas fireplace needed were not covered when it completely stopped working because it was clearly something that came with the house. But we have gotten our value out of the insurance policy for what it covers, and the amount we could potentially be out of pocket. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to cover a house yu are not familiar with.

The coils of our AC were dirty and the AC needed a little Freon. I called American Home Shield, but they were backed up and I couldn't get service. Luckily, when I submitted a different claim with them, I didn't have anyone living in the carriage house so the air conditioner being out there didn't make much of a difference at that time. But if it was my air conditioner in my house, I would be very concerned. The technicians that they sent cleaned the coils and gave it Freon. AHS has been really good. When we had a water heater that was leaking, they sent someone out that came the same day.
However, the water heater kept leaking and the contractor couldn't give us a way to stop the leak because we didn't know where the spout was for that particular water heater to turn off the water. It was very difficult. We were bailing water for about five hours before the guys came so that was inconvenient, but it was our fault for not knowing where to turn it off. However, the guys that they sent out for the water heaters upcharged everything and gave us an estimate that we would've had to pay so much out of pocket for which was a bit ridiculous. We told AHS to send us the money and we'd get our own contractors. We got our own contractors and it was within the cost that they gave us.
American Home Shield is professional and they do what they say. But I have an issue with them raising my fees when the renewal came on one of my accounts. The fee went from $47 to almost $61. Otherwise, AHS won't leave me hanging when some expectations are required and they also don't try to sell things that are not needed. They have someone come out usually the same day, within hours, and they take care of my problem.

The dryer wouldn't stand so I submitted the claim online and someone called me back within 24 hours. That wasn't bad at all. The first guy who came out was also very pleasant, friendly and informative. But I had an issue after he left. I had to call to find out if the part was gonna be ordered. It took about a week and nobody ever informed me of what was going on. The contractor told me that the ticket had been closed and that I needed to call American Shield because of that. But when they came with the part, the technician then was good.
I also had an issue before when a guy came out from Reeder Heating and Cooling. My air conditioner had gone out and he said I needed all these parts for my central air and that they had to remove all this stuff. A friend of mine was asking why they had to move my water tank to fix what they needed to fix. But I didn't follow up with it because that wasn't even the issue at hand. The Freon was just out. But overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been great. It's been two years that I've had them and I haven't really had any issues. The warranty is good to have.

I have been a customer of AHS for over ten years, and my past experience has been largely satisfactory. My 25 year-old AC unit has not been cooling in a satisfactory manner for the last 45 days, and AHS has sent the same air conditioning company out four times. At the latest visit yesterday (Aug. 29th), the serviceman stated that the compressor needed to be replaced, and also indicated this in his report. I called AHS today to find out the status, and was told they had not received the report from the AC company. Keep in mind that this has been going on since I first reported the problem on July 19, or over 45 days ago, and the fact that we are dealing with a 25 year-old unit. Also, the temperatures in this area have been close to 100 degrees while this problem has been going on.
Updated on 09/07/2018: I rejected American Home Shield's (AHS) offer to replace the compressor (the main part of the outside unit) on my 25 year-old unit. The original $1,000 charge to me for refrigerant has been eliminated when I informed them there was a leak in the system. While my cost has been reduced to $200, this does very little to resolve the problem. While AHS would be out something like $2,000, we would still be dealing with a 25 year-old air conditioning system. The A/C company, that has been out FOUR times since the middle of July says they will replace the unit for $3,891, (an earlier quote was $2,650) with me paying $1,970 of the cost. I have not heard why the large increase, but it looks like my portion of the cost has been increased to reduce AHS's expense. Still no cool air.

Called AHS again, same answer 24-48, same response when we were contacted, they don't work on geothermals. Called AHS again and stressed that they contact someone who works on a geothermal system to call us. Again 24-48 hrs again, same response. I was told they put it in as an emergency service as it's been over a week with no air and it's 100 degrees here. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor as the guy on the line didn't understand English so I couldn't get through to him what the problem was. He hung up on me. Called SEVERAL times and was disconnected.
After waiting on the line for 45 min again, I call and they gave us authorization to find someone ourselves. We can't find a single person who is willing to work with AHS. Not one... So I call back again and she says they will try again to give them 24-48 hrs. It was considered an emergency over a week ago and now it's ok to wait even longer? It is not our fault that no one is willing to work with AHS anymore. We paid our premium and are getting the raw end of the deal. I contacted Rebecca ** via email so we will see what she can do. Might I add, this is NOT the first time we ran into this with them. We had an issue with a washing machine drain.
After several attempts to get someone to come out, they had us do an outside authorization. We did, but because the company refused to speak to AHS on the phone with the diagnoses, we had to pay the $75 plus we had to pay the company and never got reimbursed. I understand protocol fully, but what about when no one will work with your company and now your customers get no help. We pay a premium for services, yet you don't provide those services. I would advise ANYONE who will listen to seek help elsewhere and to not waste your money and time with American Home Shield as they do NOT provide the services they say and they do not work with you when the people they send won't work with them.
And here it is 2 weeks later, with ANOTHER 90+ degree week and we have no air. We have had to move into friends houses to live. Very VERY expensive for us. And if by chance this isn't fixed by winter... We won't have heat as it runs both. And as a word of advice... If the people working for you don't speak or understand English, how are we supposed to convey our issues or know what to do when they have no idea? This is poor business.

I had to wait over 3 weeks for my refrigerator to be repaired. Within the three weeks, I lost food and it is very expensive to keep eating out. I lost insulin since it had to stay refrigerated. After the first week, I decided I had to go out and buy at least a small fridge so I can keep some cold stuff for the kids and keep my insulin cold. I was told the part would be in, in five days. Did not hear back from the contractor, so I called him after the weekend. He told me the part was still not in. Finally came in after waiting two weeks. He told me he would be out on Friday. Friday came and got a call at 5pm saying he won't be out. Told me it would have to wait till Sunday.
Sunday came and he was a no call no show. I called AHS on Monday. After waiting for 45 minutes on hold waiting for a rep, They informed me that they tried calling and emailing him. I get a text from the contractor saying he will be out Tuesday. He did show up and tried to fix it. After he left, it was still not working. I messaged him in the AM and he actually came back out later that day. After 3 weeks it is now finally working. I did call back AHS right now asking if there is any reimbursement for all the money I am out. Their answer, No. Needless to say, I hope nothing else breaks down in my house under this warranty. I have to wait until next year for this contract to be up. Does anyone have any other recommendations for a good warranty company with better customer service? Thanks.

HSA home warranty program has not been able to help me on three separate occasions now to reach an outcome I was pleased with. Don't waste your time or money purchasing this insurance! They don't properly vet the contractors they hire. The contractors have to be hounded to return calls to set up appointments, or there is nobody available to service our area; so we have to find our own and pay out of pocket, then try to get reimbursement from American Home Shield, which I am not too optimistic about!
Our A/C went out on 8/26/18. We reported it to HSA on 8/27. We finally got a scheduled appointment after several calls and an email to the recommended contractor and the earliest they could come out was 9/4/18! When I called to ask to use another HVAC contractor because the reviews were horrible on the one they scheduled us with, they said the best they could do was try to get their contractor to move up their appointment. We have local 5-star HVAC contractor who can come by tomorrow!!! He is licensed and highly recommended. I should be able to use him.
They encourage their Re-Key program when you move into a new home; but then they couldn't find a local contractor available to re-key our home when I put in the service request! We had a cracked window when we moved in, and policy won't cover windows. Huge waste of time. Feel bad for my realtor who paid for this policy.

Their customer service is absent. Their contractors undependable. Total waste of money. A/C went out in August. Submitted service request online. Credit card immediately charged (only thing they do quickly) and was notified of a contractor to contact to make the repair. Got an appointment for 3 days later. They came out, identified a short in a wire, jiggled it to get the A/C working and called it a day. Later that day, A/C is out again and AHS contracts the same company to come back out. Who then states that there is a wiring problem and would have to submit auth. for work which they did, called contractor then which stated that AHS will not cover so I have to come out of pocket $1800, however no one has contacted me from AHS to relate this information. After numerous calls I finally got an appt. schedule for an electrician but now the HVAC company is refusing to come back out unless I have $1800.
I have very low expectations at this point. And the most frustrating thing is it’s impossible to communicate with them. No email, insanely long hold times. They do one thing well, charge your credit card. Sure they refunded me my service fee and did not charge for electrician which to me makes sense since I have been without AC since 8/3/18. In NC Heat. Stay away from this company. Will be contacting BBB.

American Home Shield hasn’t done anything with the claim I made a little over a month ago. The contractor came initially and it took over three weeks to order the parts. They were supposed to come to my house Tuesday of last week, but I had a death in the family, so I left. They did not call me. I’ve dealt with AHS three times and it was pretty fast but it is my first time with the company fixing my refrigerator. I need to get in touch with them so we can reschedule.

My first claim submitted to claim to American Home Shield was for my leaking kitchen sink. I went online and they have specific categories for each thing and there was a dropdown for the categories to choose through. I picked the one that I thought was best and when the company called me, I confirmed that was what it was. They didn’t say that it was the wrong category so I thought it was fine. They were sending out K & K Heating and Plumbing out and they notified me that someone’s gonna reach out. I reached out to the contractor ‘cause I didn’t hear from them and there were some scheduling issues. But other than that, they came out and did the work.
They had to replace the sink and there was a little miscommunication. I told them American Home Shield was gonna handle it and I told them that this is the main sink in my house. When we scheduled it, AHS made it seem like they'd be able to get it fixed the same day. The contractor said that they would normally do that, but they need to make sure American Home Shield was gonna cover it. We went a little back and forth on it and I told them that if AHS doesn’t cover it then I’m stuck with them anyway. But if it wasn't covered, I’m not gonna pay whatever they would just come up on the work done on the sink so it just needs to get fixed. We went on to talk, but they wouldn’t assist. I spoke to American Home Shield and they approved it right away.
The experience was good for the most part. But as far as the processes go, I was a little annoyed with the scheduling aspect of it. When they observed I was annoyed, they acknowledged that they understood my sentiments. ButI was happy with the whole experience. I've been with them for less than a year and I’m glad that I signed up. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

The freezer part of our refrigerator was freezing but the bottom portion was not cooling at all. We called American Home Shield since it was the first time we were doing a claim and I wanted to talk to somebody before I submit a claim online. The technician came and my wife was there. She said she had a great experience. The tech was very professional and he explained to her. He moved the refrigerator out and took his time, as far as what was wrong with it, and also showed all of the panels that he had to take off. He fixed the refrigerator and now it’s working fine. It was a great interaction and there were no problems at all. Also, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield.

I absolutely love Home Shield. I had First American for years and they were awful, and then one of the workers recommended American Home Shield and they've been amazing. I filed a claim on an air conditioner last week and their contractor got out on the same day and fixed it. With First American, sometimes it took two weeks. So, I've been extremely happy with AHS. I have two properties and had a couple of claims over the years for both properties, and they've always been timely. I had been calling AHS for my claims, but now I do it online, and it's easier and really fast. Their contractors are very professional as well. Everything's been great since they had my appliances repaired.

The AHS site is very user-friendly. When I submitted an online claim for a valve on my swimming pool, the service called me 30 minutes later and they came out that afternoon. They got the approval the next day and the following morning, they came out and replaced the valve. The contractor is excellent and everything is working fine now. Before this recent claim, AHS also took care of my air conditioner in the same manner. It was very quick, easy and taken care of.

Our AC unit's thermostat decided to just randomly shut off on us once in a while and we didn’t know what was up with that. AHS sent a contractor out and they showed us what caused the problem, so in the future we would know how to avoid it. They were really great. But when our water heater broke and stopped working completely, the guy that originally came out didn't seem very knowledgeable. He came out and didn’t really look at anything. He just said that it was not working and needed to be replaced. We also had to make numerous calls to the plumbing company because there were parts within AHS that were not covered like re-piping. But we also knew that the piping that up there was fairly new and didn’t need to be replaced.
The plumbing company said that they would only order the parts if we paid the $300 for them to put in new hoses to the hot water heater, and they charged us for it. Thankfully, my husband was very knowledgeable and supervised the guy when he came and replaced the unit. It's a tankless water heater, so it's just a little unit and the technician never replaced the thing. But we had to call AHS to make sure that we understood what wasn’t covered and also called them back because the plumbing company never called us to give our $300 back. So, I'm not thrilled with the plumbing company. It almost seemed like they were trying to double dip.
Overall, I've been very pleased with American Home Shield. We've had some minor mishaps since we've been in the house. It's been almost a year and the service that AHS provided has been fantastic. I have a few family and friends that are in the midst of buying a home and I have recommended the American Home Shield.

I usually go online and fill out a claim and/or call American Home Shield directly and tell them. My most recent claim was for a sump pump that needed to be replaced and TMD Plumbing came out and installed it very quickly. They were in and out in less than 10 minutes. Then, a month later it seized up. They came back out and didn’t charge me at all for because it was part of the same reason. TMD needs to do a job better the first time and understand that. Other than that, it was fine.
However, I was unhappy with my experience because I was calling for it initially but none of the vendors that AHS goes through were open on the weekends, and it was a little disturbing because that was not my problem. The sump pump was leaking on a Saturday and they told me that I couldn't get anyone until Monday. There should be an emergency back-up plan for that deal, where someone is able to be contacted. I spent all day checking out and calling vendors that would come out to do it outside of the warranty and I had to pay for it out of my pocket. It was an inconvenience. But there was one guy that came out for the faucet and water heater, and he did a great job. Overall, I’m happy with my experience with American Home Shield.

I recommend American Home Shield to several of my friends. They have saved us a lot of money and we’ve been happy with them so far. We had a plumbing problem at one end of our house and we got it cleared. We went out of town and when we came back, the other side of the house has got a sump pump issue. So, I called to submit a claim twice within that week. Usually, I go online to submit a request for service ‘cause each time, it’s hard to get a person on the phone. Then I usually get an email from American Home Shield within 20 minutes saying that my request has been submitted. Still, I wish it would be a lot easier to get a person on the phone to speak to.
We were dealing with A-English Plumbing for a little bit and the plumber is quick to respond. We had him out twice in the past but because he wasn’t equipped for what was going on, he referred us to Metro both times. Metro came to the rescue and they were great so we requested them to be our primary responders for plumbing issues. Since Metro came out and got the problem solved, everything’s been running fine.

I like American Home Shield and other than the fact that they should have a little bit faster service, I have no problem with them. The companies that they send out however, a lot of them aren’t very knowledgeable on the stove that I work on right now. We have a glass top stove that the burners sporadically would come on and come off and wouldn’t work at all. So we called AHS and made the claim, and they sent one company out. However, the first company that came out couldn’t fix it. They told AHS what the problem was and that they can’t resolve it. AHS wanted a second opinion on what was wrong with it, so they contacted another company to come out, and they’re still working on it.
We've also had a claim submitted for what I assumed was a leak on the floor in the garage. The AHS contractor came and they put cameras in the wall and did everything they could but they couldn’t find the leak, so that wasn’t it. Then another one was for the water heater because it was getting extremely hot. The contractor came out and put new elements in, and basically rebuilt the water heater. They put new thermostats, and it’s been working fine since then. Whenever AHS sends contractors out, I have great interaction with them and I talk to them the whole time. And the last one they sent out were great. The guy gave me his personal cell phone number and he said, “I have to contact them, get information, get parts. If you don’t hear from me in three or four days, just give me a call.” He was very personable.

My dryer was making some crazy noise the moment I turn it on. It was like there was a monster inside. It was so loud I didn't want to even turn it on and one would think the whole machine was gonna break so we weren't using it at all. I smelled smoke too. I have a log-in for American Home Shield and I submitted a claim online. I was notified that they would have somebody contact me. Their dispatch place called me very quickly and asked me about the problem. I told them what was going on and they asked what my schedule looked like in the next few days. I told them that I just had a baby and I’m home every day.
The contractor came out within three days of me having the issue. The guy was very nice and professional. He also let my two older sons ask him a bunch of questions and look at things. It wasn't in his job description, but he put up with it. It turned out that there was a little pencil thing that fell out of my four-year-old's pocket and went through the little holes inside the dryer. So, the dryer will not break as long as I keep those objects out the dryer.
This was my first time placing a claim with AHS and I told my husband afterwards that I wish every company operated like them. When I first bought the house, I had another home warranty company that I absolutely despise with every being of my existence. It was awful to communicate with them and awful to use anybody. When we called back, they were unable to come for another week so I called again, and they sent somebody else who had a totally different opinion of what was wrong. It is now fixed and it has been fine since. Everything’s a trade-off with AHS. When the second technician came, I explained to him what happened. He looked at the unit and said, “There’s nothing wrong with the thermostat. What’s wrong is there’s a lot of accumulation of lint. So, you’re gonna have to hire another company to do the vent cleaning.” I don’t know if AHS covers that because they say they don't cover anything outside. So, I just contacted a different contractor that used to see us Moreover, the fee that I pay before used to be $75 which I give to the contractor. The fridge part in my refrigerator stopped cooling, so everything was getting warm in the fridge. I submitted the claim online and once everything was submitted, the first available opening was quite outweighed out, so I called American Home Shield to see if it can get bumped up. The reps were very helpful and they informed me that it was through Sears, so I ended up calling Sears. I tried to see if there was anything they can get out earlier, which they were able to. They had somebody from Sears come out and look at the fridge. However, I was disappointed because they came and looked for the fridge. It was just my wife that was home. They did the repairs and said that they no longer made the part and that we would have to get a new fridge out of it. And then, randomly on a Sunday, we had a part show up at our house, but we never heard anything from Sears on when they were gonna come back.
I called American Home Shield and the lady who I spoke with the second time was amazing. She called over to Sears and tried to push for the repair to be expedited because they told me it would be another two weeks before they can get somebody out here to do the repair. At that point, it had been three to four weeks with us living without a cooler, which was unacceptable. They said that was all they could do, so she apologized that there wasn’t anything that she could do, and that was on Sears.
I did a little research myself and found out what the part was and how to replace, and I was able to replace it by myself in about five minutes. The unit has been working perfectly since the part had been replaced. It works great and everything is icy-cold. I haven’t had a problem since. Sears as the service center dropped the ball and the fact that they couldn’t get a tech to come out to do a five-minute repair was flabbergasting, to say the least.
I have friends that just moved here from California and I told them to ask for American Home Shield on their house. The realtor that I used always pushes American Home Shield when people are buying houses and I definitely recommend it. Once my one-year is done, I would be re-subscribing with them, so I could get my house, all my appliances, monitored under that warranty.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for a leak in the kitchen and the rep was very easy to talk to. It was also very easy to get the scheduling done. The contractor who came out for this was very professional. I’ve had American Home Shield on my property for four years and I have several contracts with them. I also have one here in Denver and they sent a contractor out to look at my air conditioner. He wanted it to be that I needed Freon, but my system did not need that. He didn’t want to do anything else for me after that and he left. I called American Home Shield back and told them about it. I was not happy about it because American Home Shield told me that they would send somebody else out to diagnose the problem. If they came up with the same thing that that particular contractor came up, I would have to pay the service charge once again.
So instead of doing that, I called a contractor on my own. He came out and solved the problem for 200 dollars. I paid American Home Shield $100 to send that first guy out and then if I had to call them back and they send somebody else equally as that guy was, I would have paid $200 and the problem still wouldn’t have been solved. I get the problem that when dealing with the air conditioner problem, none of the people from AHS are acceptable. My air conditioner at my property in St. Louis went out and they sent a guy who was very professional on how he was gonna do it. However, AHS does not pay for Freon so the contractor wanted to charge me twice what the compressor was gonna cost for them to put Freon in it.
When I asked them for anything cheaper, they told me that they would not put anything but the Freon that was in there originally. However, the Freon that was in there originally has been banned by the environment which was why it cost so much. I asked AHS why we could not go with what is environmentally safe. They said that they had to put back in what I originally had. I called another air conditioner specialist who put a compressor in and cheaper Freon. It almost cost me what American Home Shield was, but it was a little bit higher. So, I would not recommend American Home Shield to anybody when dealing with the air conditioner part.

WE have had AHS for years and have had a few minor repairs done. We had a problem with our hot water tank 7 months ago and they sent out a repair outfit from about an hour away. (No one local?) The "kid" replaced the elements and one of the thermostats and said the other one never goes out. (I think because he didn't have one.) The unit worked for a while before the water began overheating (scalding hot!) I called and requested that this be repaired over a week ago. AHS now says they can't find anyone to do this service. (I've been trying to get them for days, but keep getting put on hold and eventually cut off). After finally reaching someone, they sent me an e-mail that said I can find someone to fix it myself.
After I find someone, the contractor give them a complete estimate before they will authorize any payments. Then, the contractor must fix it and I must pay him in full and submit an invoice to AHS. They will then review it and may pay me less the service charge after I've done all their work. I have not found anyone to go through all their requirements (BS) yet. Many of the contractors simply get real aloof when I mention AHS...and say they have had experience and choose not to not business with them. I'm still having a simple overheating problem on an electric water heater.

However that vendor charged us $453 for Freon and wanted to be paid upfront for their failure to fix. The first 2x visit, we would pay $200+ per visit for Freon, no diagnostics and they didn't even attempt to fix it. The 3rd time, AHS picked up the tab after complaining. This ordeal has been very time consuming. The contractors AHS chooses are subpar and shady. At this point, we have bought our tenants a portable AC, reduced their rent for all the inconvenience and discomfort. They sent a contractor who was incompetent and had no idea what he was doing and blatantly admitted he couldn't fix it then flat out made up a story about it being a pre-existing condition. He had no proof or any reason whatsoever to think that. It took another week for AHS to find another technician who claimed he was capable of servicing our unit. He arrived on the 19th and also claimed he needed a second opinion and sent someone else to come the next day (Monday). It is determined my compressor is shot. Need to order a new one and the technician said his experience is that it can take 3-4 weeks to get the part ordered.
Meanwhile, I have my local AC guy come out and he says he can have the part ordered and REPLACED the next day. It is now Wednesday the 29th (17 days of no AC in 90 degree heat with 2 kids sleeping on air mattresses on our bedroom floor with a portable AC unit) and the AC company AHS sent me hasn't even filed a report to order the part. Throughout this entire ordeal, I have logged 19 phone calls to AHS and over 6.5 hours of time on hold with half the calls being disconnected. This company is a scam and should be put out of business.

I purchased a new home and my real estate agent recommended American Home Shield. Gave me a copy of the contract, which I paid in full at the time. I had 2 emergency issues come up. 1. Sewer started backing up into the house, sewer water coming out on the floor. I was proactive and immediately called a plumber. My 79 year old Mom is living there. The plumber found massive tree roots blocking the sewer line. They replaced the sewer line and added a clean out. I paid the bill. 2. The electricity went out in the hottest month of the year, again with my 79 year old Mom living there, so no electricity, no A/C in 100+ degree heat. So again, I was proactive, called the electrician who came right out and fixed the issue... Main breaker to the house was arching and went out. Again I paid in full.
I contacted AHS about filing the damages and submitting the repair bills for reimbursement. I was told that they were glad I was proactive, but because I didn’t contact them first, the claims would not be reimbursed. I’ve never had an insurance company fault me for being proactive! In fact they are happy when I’ve had to be proactive. This call us first was NEVER explained to me when I gave them the full price for their coverage...which has turned out to be USELESS!! I will not recommend this company to anyone. In fact the local Realtors will hear and see this review. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Requested central air conditioning repair on July 12th. By the 17th, a technician finally came out, said he fixed it, broke again the next day. When I contacted American Home Shield, I continually got the runaround - for nearly 7 weeks. I finally had to call and demand that they send me a check for the value, which they agreed to finally do only to have their "computer system" not work, and they are now saying that I have to waste more of my valuable time calling them back later in order to get the money. I will never use this company again and will tell everyone I know to stay away. Two months without an air conditioner and zero explanation for the hold up from this company with some of the most incompetent customer service people I have had to deal with in my life.

We have had coverage through American Home Shield for 2 months now. During that time, we have called 15 times to get our air conditioning fixed. They have done everything to make us jump through hoops and nothing has actually been fixed. First, multiple phone calls produced a totally inept a/c guy who said maybe it was the electric. Then, multiple phone calls produced a nice electrician who said, no it's not the electric, it's the A/C. Now, after multiple phone calls, everyone in customer service saying we'd get a phone call back within the day, NOTHING. We have two young children and no A/C during 90/100 degree weather. Today we demanded to be cut a check for the amount they would cover so we can pursue this independently, and all of a sudden the computer system is down and we have to call back again. This is absolutely unbelievable and we are livid.

Not sure what has happened - the Customer Service for AHS doesn't know what happened - however, they charged my account 4x in August for the monthly fee. Amazingly, they can't give me an immediate refund/credit for MY OWN MONEY for about 3-5 business days. Imagine almost $200 taken from you but they can't seem to reimburse you immediately... smh. Plus they came out to service my dishwasher and my fridge --- still having same issue with DW and the "fix" for the freezer did not work! I had called back to report it and no one came out then after 2 weeks when I called back - they sent an email that they had attempted to contact/call me. I had no missed calls cell or work numbers...
I may be dropping this company and look for a company whose call center is IN the U.S. The people who answered the customer service phone when I called were nice enough but I had to request to speak to a supervisor 2 or 3 times before a person stating they were a supervisor came on the line to tell me the exact same thing...after I asked, "What if this was your money and your account, how would you feel waiting 3-5 business days waiting for your money to be returned?" Andrea* was nice. The rep before her was friendly. They repeated all the lines rehearsed in training I'm sure. I'm just really disappointed that I chose this company... :(

Our garage door was broken. A part was broken. I went online and scheduled someone to come out to fix it. That’s the only good thing. Super easy to schedule an appointment. The guy said the “part” that was broken isn’t covered. Only specific parts. So it’s cost me $100 for a two minute conversation. Part to fix was $200. The local guy down the street was $240 total. I never would have called AHS if I knew only certain parts are covered on items.
I called AHS and the lady said she understood and since I didn’t use them she would refund the $100. I waited a week. Called to see where the refund was and this lady said they do not refund for that. I spent an hour on the phone with her. First it was okay to refund but only if I booked the service on the phone not online like I did (mind you when you call the 800 number it says please book your service online!!!) then she said no it’s not refunded. She changed her mind 5x.
Finally I spoke to a manager for an hour going back and forth. She said it was covered then it wasn’t. Then it was. I had her on speaker to have witnesses that this was the biggest joke ever. I told her to pull the original call. I know they record their conversations. She said she would and it takes 3-5 days. I was asking more questions and she hung up me!!! I was on the phone for over two hours to be hung up on!!! And since they confirm your phone number when you speak to someone I know she knew my number and she never called me back which means she did it on purpose.
I waited TWO weeks to give them enough time. Called Monday, still no call pulled. But this lady would call me Tuesday. Still no call. I called Wednesday and they said the original lady never said she would refund. I would not be dealing with this for three weeks with a newborn for fun! I asked to listen to the call myself as I know for a fact they are now lying!!! The can’t let me listen to the call. How convenient. This is the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. 100% canceling and will go with someone else.

Aug 6th 2018, we reported electricity issue in our exercise room which is one of 6 rooms in the house. All rooms had electricity except that particular room. I called AHS to find out if electrical issue is covered by my contract and the rep confirmed so they scheduled technician to come to the house. The tech from City first Electric came to the house at 08/10/2018 and told my husband that the issue is compressed wire (whatever that means??) inside the wall which is a major job so it is not covered by contract. He said that he can do the job for $900.00 paid direct to him and it would take few hours. We did not agree with his assessment since it did not make sense to us. We had not done any recent work to the house and there has not been rain or leak that would cause any short in wiring.
I called AHS to complain about assessment and after long conversation, the rep agreed for 2nd opinion which they told me that someone will let me know the following week. On Monday Aug 13th, I asked independent contractor which we knew to come and check the issue. I was shocked when the guy went outside and came inside the house after 5 minutes and said that the issue is resolved!! I could not believe that We had electricity in that room after 5 minutes of diagnostic and seemingly repair!!! He said the issue was breaker outside the house which he fixed. I right away called AHS back and complaint about City First Electric misdiagnosis and solicitation of business for themselves through AHS. I also disputed the service fee that they are supposed to charge me. The rep agreed with me and apologized and assured me that I would not be liable for any service charge.
Few days later, I received an email from AHS for past due charge. I called again and talked to another rep and again explained the whole story and this time I asked for cancellation of the whole policy. They assured me again that I will not be liable for service fee and the contract will be cancelled. In my dismay, I got statement with past due service fee at 08/23/2018. I called again at 08/24/2018 and after being on the phone for 32 minutes and talking with Rose and then transferred to Chellse and then finally Bill, seemingly the manager I was told that I have to pay for wrong diagnosis. Bill did not even give me his last name or phone number.
The manager, Bill, was so rude and unprofessional over the phone. He did not even answer one of my questions and keep repeating the same script and not even apologizing for their vendor cheat and wrong diagnosis. I informed him that I will definitely sue his company for misrepresentation and misdiagnosis and he said that is fine by them. Later on I receive a denial letter dated 08/17/2018 which states that the condition of the issue were not normal wear and tear and wires had damage in attic. If their assessment was true then how come I have electricity now with just fixing the breaker within 5 minutes! I had similar experience in past with my water heater which I had to bring another company to fix the issue way less than what they wanted to charge me with their nonsense contractors and exclusions! Customers should support good honest business owners and AHS and their selected vendors are just cheaters!

I called because I noticed water just pouring out of my shut off valve to my sprinkler line. Paid $75 plumbing tech arrives calls American Home Shield. They say they do not cover sprinklers and denied my repair. I the tech then called me to advise me very confused because it was not a sprinkler that was leaking it was the valve. I then pulled my contract and read it stated they do not cover fire sprinklers which I don’t have fire sprinklers. Number one I have irrigation sprinklers and that was not what was leaking. It states in the contract they cover gate valves which is pretty similar to a shut off valve. So I called the representative told me again they don’t cover sprinklers. I said its not a fire sprinkler which is located in commercial buildings it’s a shut off valve to my irrigation sprinklers.
I asked if you cover a hose bibb and gate valve how can you not cover a shut off valve? He stated he would contact the plumber back to get a more detail on the issue and be back in touch because I asked to speak to a supervisor. After we hung up I called the plumber he said he was going to send a picture so they could see what exactly was going on. I then get a email the case was closed. So at this point I’m livid because I was told a supervisor would call me back so I call back. The lady argues once again about a sprinkler I asked to have my $75 back to take care of the repair that they failed to do as a single mother of 3 children. The plumber quoted me $249 for the repair on top of my $75 that American Home Shield collected and did not work with me to even attempt to take care of my water pouring out my shut off valve.
Also I asked where it stated in my contract that they didn’t cover anything outside because I was also told that by the representative and she couldn’t not point it out. I’m so disappointed with American Home Shield service and lack of care for their customers. I’ve been in plumbing for the last 16 years and I know the difference between a irrigation sprinkler & fire sprinkler also a shut off valve versus a sprinkler and I know that I was stiffed for $75 and I don’t even wanna ever bother with them again. I don’t do business like this. I’ve seen so many complaints now that I have researched and it’s sad they remain in business able to do this kinds of stuff to people. I want my $75 and to end my contract with them.

And if something happens and it doesn't work, they'll come back and fix it. AHS always does what I think they should do. The only problem I have with them is that their price keeps going up every year, so I keep paying more and more. But everything goes up, so they have to raise their price as well. So far, the experience with AHS has been good and I would recommend them to others.

I had an issue before and they sent them out and they've been really good.
The contractor tried to order a part, told me what it was and that he would be quick. When he found he couldn't fix it, he contacted me back and they replaced it. It now stays nice and cool. When my toilet continually flushed over and over, I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and it was easy. But the first vendor that they gave me gave me the runaround. They told me they would come on Wednesday and I postponed an appointment so I would be home. They called and said they would come on Monday, but they didn't. Then they said that they got me confused with somebody, and they were coming on Wednesday. They called and said they were on their way but they never came. I then asked for another vendor and they came right away. They have been here before and they worked for American Home Shield. Since the repair, the toilet has been working fine.
I've had American Home Shield for 14 years ever since I've been in this home. But I am extraordinarily disappointed with them and I have even searched Google to see who their president is. When I had a problem several years back with my air conditioner, they sent somebody out that said that it was hail damage but we had no hail at all. It was old. Then one time, somebody came out and put some of the Freon in it. Then the last time last year, it stopped working. I called AHS and they sent out a guy. I had complained before about them saying that it was hail damage and it was not. It was rusted out.
To cover their butt, they sent another vendor out but both vendors that they sent out worked for American Home Shield so I knew when the second vendor comes, they were going to say the same thing. They didn't fix it and this year I ended up out of my money. I bought myself a new heating and cooling system, and I started to cancel AHS because of it but I thought about if something electrical or something happens. I'm keeping American Home Shield. But when people ask me about it, I'd tell them not to get it. My biggest mistake was to replace my heating and cooling costing me almost $8,000. I have been a good customer, made my payments for 14 years, and they would not replace that air conditioner.
I would have paid to upgrade it but they would not do it and I'm real iffy about even keeping it because now, even the people who replaced my air conditioner which is a reputable, big company here, they have something similar to American Home Shield. I'm gonna think about them when my contract ends this year. I wish that I had called channel 4 like those other people did because one person got theirs replaced. Everywhere I go, I tell people about American Home Shield. I told them not to do it with them because not do a big replacement.

I had been told that there was a $75 service fee, but I didn’t have that fee at the time, and instead I was told that I would be billed for it. They refused to cover an issue on our house multiple times, sent out a contractor who put his foot through my ceiling and never repaired the hole he made, never called me back to explain the reason why they weren’t covering the issue, made me call multiple times and sit on the phone for hours. Their customer service, while nice, are not trying to help the customer and fight for us, they are there to just send you on a wild goose chase. And, then to cancel my plan, they made me sit on the phone on hold for another half an hour and then charged me an additional administrative fee to cancel my account with them.
DO NOT use AHS home warranty company and for that matter, if you are in Kansas City, do not use Lynch Electrical for your electrical needs. They went in my attic, put a hole in my roof and said “oops” and walked out without ever coming back to fix it. They basically steal money from you for the service fee to pay an individual that works in their best interest, and will make up information to support their interest, and there is no way to remedy the situation without paying them again to come out with a different technician. I feel completely scammed and I encourage any home buyers or sellers to look elsewhere. This IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

But he came back out and fixed that. I think that AHS is contracting with such small businesses whereas a bigger company has more experienced people.
When my AC was out, the technician took a week to get out then another week to fix it. The technician said that it was something so simple and easy that he could come out the next day. But I guess he was the only one working for that company, so it was just whenever he had time. It also took a while to go pick up the parts. Other than that, everything was good.

We had a leak in the motor area of the spa. The process to submit a claim to American Home Shield was easy and they worked perfectly. They were very responsive and they would tell us through email who was gonna come. We live in a gated community so we need to know who's coming so that we can get them in through the gate. Maui Pool came out and they were excellent. The fellow who came was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The problem was a rubber ring that had degraded, which resolved within the leak, and he fixed it.
We have American Home Shield for two years now and we're very happy with them. We’ve had several previous home warranty companies over the course of the years in both the house we live in now in Indian Wells, and a previous home when we lived in Los Angeles, and American Home Shield is the best. Every month, when I'm mad at paying other bills, I'm happy to pay their bill. We've had a couple of other people out on other things, and the service people that AHS contracted to come out and do things seemed to be universally good.

Instead of cooling, our AC was getting hotter. We submitted a claim with AHS for it over the phone and dealing with their rep was good, but we didn’t like the ones that came out for the repair. We had a 3.5 ton, but they put in the wrong size. They said that it was a 3 ton that they turned around and replaced. They also made fun of us and laughed at us, so we chose not to have them come back out ever. In the two and a half years we’ve had AHS, this is the first time we have this problem. They were good to start up with, but then they acted like they didn’t care about the customer and I noticed that change about six months ago.

There was an issue with my garbage disposal and the people that American Home Shield sent for it were absolutely wonderful. They called and came when they said they would. They decided that we needed a new disposal and they took care of it. We had another plumbing issue way back and AHS sent somebody that repaired the pipe immediately. AHS has always been good to us and I would recommend them to everybody. In fact, I’m trying to get my sons signed up with them. I signed up initially because I was really worried about the water heater but that keeps on ticking. The rest of the things that have come up, AHS had them fixed and if I had a problem, it was solved immediately.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Carol. Its good to know that we have been able to provide satisfactory service. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs.

The fan of the air conditioner wouldn’t blow even though the light would show that the compressor was on. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was easy navigating their website. When the tech came out, I walked him in and showed him what the deal was. He looked around and originally just thought that perhaps the drain line had gotten clogged. So, he put a vacuum on it and sucked out whatever water was in there, and that was it. But then the next day or two, the air conditioner wouldn’t turn on at all. I called back and it was about another week before the second guy came out. He said my fan was bad and so he replaced it. Since the repair, the air conditioner has been working great.
I’ve had great service from American Home Shield. Sometimes though it would take a while to get things done, but I live in the Keys so I know that it takes a while for people to show up. They have a saying down here in the Florida Keys that if your employee is 15 minutes late, he’s a good employee. Fortunately, I’m not in a spot where anything that breaks is life-threatening.
You'd get a washer break and it would take a few days for the parts, and I’m patient about that. But my daughter sometimes says, “Can’t they come right out right now? We’re paying for this service and if I wanna pay $900, I could have somebody out today and they will come out and fix it today." But I don't have that kind of money to pay for that level of service. Before I started using American Home Shield, I had an issue and I called a plumber. They are 24/7 and they give fast service. So, the guy came out right away, but the estimate to make the repair was around 900 bucks. That was a lot just to get the washer fixed right away. It can wait a few days and we can go to the laundromat if we have to wash something. So overall, I’m satisfied and happy with American Home Shield's service.

It was easy submitting the claim online for our garage door. But when the technician came, he said that the part that was broken was not covered under the American Home Shield. That has happened to us several times now. So when you write in what the claim is for, I wish it would say that it is not covered before they send somebody over and then they tell you it’s not covered. But AHS usually sends out technicians fast so that's good. I would recommend AHS and tell people that it's better to be on the safe side.

My experience was horrible. A guy came and looked at our AC and he said that the coil was not on the AC. He even took a picture of it, and then he said they didn't make that Freon anymore for our AC. He also said he can get us two AC units at a discounted price. I told him it was a lot of money and then he talked to my husband.
He kept calling back about two or three times to see if he could bring a new AC because the house was 110 degrees. I finally told him the next day that I would call around and see if I could price a new AC. On the third day, we were still without AC, so I called American Home Shield and said I still haven't heard anything about our AC and nobody has contacted me.
The rep said the tech hasn't turned in a report yet. I told her that the tech was here and told me that we needed a new AC. She said she would call him on the phone. So, the lady with AHS called him on the phone and she came back and said the tech said that I needed the AC. And as soon as she gets his report, she would let me know. Then my husband came home and told me to call the tech and tell him that we're looking around for a better priced AC because he offered my husband an $8,000 for the AC.
I called AHS again and then they said that the tech told them we didn't need a new AC and that he could just replace the coil. I felt like just because we told them no that he turned around and changed his statement. And I found two new ACs for $6,000 a piece. Plus they had a 20-year and a 30-year warranty on it, which was something different than the tech offered plus a lower price.
The tech was blowing up our phone. He said he already talked to his supervisor and that he can have the new AC by that afternoon and install it. It was just a mess. When I tried to call over to that company, Royal AC, to try to talk to somebody, nobody would call me back and nobody was answering my calls. I even sent an email and they wouldn't respond. So, then on their Facebook, I told them to respond to all my messages. I also explained what happened and their answer to me was just a sad face.
I told AHS about it and the rep apologized and said she would just type it up and that was it. So then we took our money out of pocket and went ahead and bought a new AC. And then AHS said that they would give me the $400 to put towards the AC. I just received the reimbursement two days ago. However, I think I'm gonna cancel my policy with them and also thinking about getting a lawyer for this $13,000 because it just doesn't make any sense to me. We lost our whole house during the flood and when we lost everything, American Home Shield would not cover anything. And their answer to me was if we plugged in our refrigerator and it worked, even if it was just for 13 minutes, then they will come out and cover the AC.
But because our house was in the water, I didn't plug my refrigerators, stove and dishwasher. We put everything out in the yard and bought all new stuff. I was under the impression that none of it worked. Our AC has been working for almost a year. They can't say that it was the flood because it has been working. The guys that I hired came and put this AC in. One of the pipes got clogged upstairs and it leaked water for two weeks since I've had it. And now, my ceiling caved in.

The spring on my garage door popped so I called American Home Shield to submit a clam, let them know of the issue, and tell them that I needed somebody to fix it. They sent me an email saying they would dispatch a contractor within 24 hours. The contractor came and looked at the spring. Then they called AHS to see if that was covered by the warranty and they were told that it wasn’t. But since I already had the contractor there, I had them fix it and I paid out of pocket for the repair. I would tell people to make sure that they ask AHS first if an item is covered by the warranty before a contractor is dispatched.
On the other hand, my experience with another claim for my air conditioner was excellent. The technician that came was courteous and very professional. He sent me a text message so that I would know that he was on his way and he came on time. He knew what he was doing and he was there for 15 minutes. He fixed my AC and everything has been going great since the repair.

Overall I have to say that my experience with AHS has been one in which the service providers are friendly yet continuously find a way to meet the minimal commitment or terminology that makes things excluded from coverage. I have now been an AHS customer for over four years and after doing the cost benefit of my monthly fee + service call fees I have not yet seen the value. The main driver has been the denial or fixing minor things instead of replacing. These items are things that I can call any plumber or contracting company to fix for the equivalent amount of a service fee which makes me wonder why I even pay the monthly fee.
Most recently I had a filed a claim for a leaky toilet shut off valve. This valve size is no longer made because of the age of the house and would require a new pipe to be welded in place of current one. The plumbers that came out were very friendly but after looking at the leak simply tightened the bolt in the back and said it won't leak anymore. For a 5 minute job I still paid the $75 service fee but I would have really preferred that the root cause (old pipe) would have been addressed because I know that I will have to place another call eventually to address it.
A year ago I also placed a call for my garage door failing. I re-read my contract recently and I noticed that I had the extra coverage to cover things that were not installed properly etc. When I inquired about it the AHS representative mentioned that their notes show that it was failing due to secondary damage because the rails were rubbing against the unit because of my low ceilings and over time the opener failed. Now to me this was something that sounds like improper installation as it was something that nobody would be able to find prior to me purchasing the home. In summary, after 4 years I am questioning whether to renew as I have not seen the value after my last two service calls.
Good morning Andres,

Per AHS, my air conditioner has a "pre-existing condition". I know, right? That's the whole reason I bought your product. That's the reason your product exists. The 'condition' they referred to was created by the repair team THEY sent out last year to 'repair' our A/C. They then covered nothing for our repair estimate, and therefore gave us nothing towards the new A/C we ended up purchasing, since we obviously were not going to use any company with whom they attempt to do business.
My husband and I have tried to get something for the nearly $3000 we have paid to them in the last 4 years and have been met with hours-long phone calls consisting of 40-minute hold times and employees with scripts and no power. Twice we have been told that the most recent $75 service charge would be waived, and that our credit card information had been removed from our file. Imagine my complete and utter frustration this morning when I discovered that amount charged to our credit card by this fraudulent company.
I am currently on hold with the company, trying to get someone to tell me the name of their agent for service of process in my state so that I can serve them with a lawsuit for fraud, breach of contract, etc. This is a prime class action case where a judge would certainly be inclined to grant punitive damages. Judging by our experience, I imagine this happens to many, if not most, AHS customers.

I called AHS because my A/C unit stopped working. The compressor on my A/C unit needed to be repaired via AHS contractor(8/22). They ordered the part which was quoted between 3-5 days (already a push but fair enough). I called to check on the order (8/27) they had ordered the wrong part and their solution was to order the right part. Note that I actually had to contact the contractor to ask, AHS did not update me at all. So I decided to call them to confirm this is how they are resolving the situation. My first 10+ calls went to a busy signal so I tried their online chat and the operator disconnect me. Then I called and was hung up on via phone call that took 15 minutes of holding to get through. Unbelievable, dishonest company. I would have been ok with them just explaining to me that there is nothing we can do, we just have to wait for the new part. They accepted no responsibility verbally at all. Will NEVER EVER use them again.

Updated on 08/28/2018: Problem still not corrected. This is a response that AHS wants to keep private. I appreciate your quick response to the 2 issues. I spoke to Chrissie (sp?) yesterday and she promised that she would send the best technician to fix my AC. That was a joke. The company that she is sending is the original company that you sent a month ago, who never corrected the problem. Which you had said in the past that you would send to my home. Their online satisfaction rating is extremely low. So having said that where does that leave me? Other than an AC and a refrigerator that are not working properly. We've been customers for years with AHS, and it's so disappointing how the claims are handled now. In the past, you would schedule a repair, the assigned company would come out and fix it, pay your fee and be done. Well, that's no longer the policy. Any part needed for repair are ordered through AHS, then shipped to your contractor. This process slows down the repairs tremendously!!! Our AC went out on 8-16, Contractor comes out on 8-17, Parts ordered on 8-20, and we're still waiting on parts to be delivered. Contractor said they may(?) be delivered tomorrow. She wasn't sure. So, I'm looking at around 12 days of no AC with 95+ degree Texas heat. This should be unacceptable from AHS...

In May of this year, our A/C stopped blowing cool air. I contacted AHS and they sent HRS Heating and Cooling to fix the issue. HRS ended up changing out the compressor, the type of coolant it ran on, and two valves (one inside and one outside). In August, the A/C did the same thing. I called HRS and submitted a service request. I asked for HRS to return, but was told they “were unavailable”. AHS sent Stout Heating and Air to diagnosis and fix the issue. Stout’s diagnosis was “catastrophic failure” that was caused by changing the type of coolant in the A/C.
The following day, I was contact by AHS authorizations and told Stout was authorized to change the entire heating and cooling system (the outdoor unit as well as the air handler inside), but I would be responsible for $2175 of uncovered expenses (these ranged from a concrete pad to ductwork and wiring). At that time, I informed the authorizations POC that their contractor (Stout) said the issue was the result of what their original contractor (HRS) did in May. The AHS authorizations POC placed me on hold and contacted Stout to get confirmation of what I said. When they returned, they informed me that Stout told them the same thing and the issue was being turned over to “contractor relations” for resolution.
At this point, I ask how long that will take and what I’m supposed to do about my A/C in the meantime. I was told it could take up to 10 days as “contractor relations” had to contact both contractors and make a decision on a course of action. The AHS authorizations POC then placed me on hold and when they came back told me they had secured a reimbursement for me to get a standalone A/C while they worked through the issue. I specifically asked how much I was authorized and I was told $400. The AHS authorizations POC then gave me a “dispatch number” and email address to submit the receipt to for reimbursement.
To my surprise, I was contacted within a couple days by HRS and informed they had received a service request from AHS. They had no idea Stout had already been to the house or of “contractor relations” involvement in the issue. I decided to call Stout and see if “contractor relations” had contacted them. I was told they had not been contacted, but had picked up the new A/C equipment and was ready to schedule the install. I told them AHS was sending out HRS and I wasn’t prepared to pay $2175 to fix HRS’ mistake.
HRS came to the house as scheduled by AHS and fixed the A/C within 20 minutes of arrival. They discovered the motor on the exterior unit had seized up and replaced it. This took nine days total, from first call to HRS coming and fixing the A/C. During the course of the issue, I was told they would waive the $100 service request fee. However, I have gotten two email notifications telling me the fee is “overdue”. I’ve called three times and been told it has been taken care of and will disappear from my dashboard (online account) within a few days.
When I submitted the receipt for the stand alone A/C it was just shy of $385. A couple days ago, I got a check in the mail for $100. I called and was told that is all I was authorized (per the notes in my account) and they “didn’t have to do that”. I insisted the AHS authorizations POC told me $400 and after nearly an hour on the phone discussing potential courses of action including me filing a small claims suit, the AHS POC I was speaking to said he would request that phone call where I was told $400 be pulled and reviewed. Even in the instance they review the call, there is still the wide disparity between the two contractors’ diagnosis of the issue.
I’m still working through this… My goal is to get the $100 service request fee waived as I was told it would be and the full reimbursement for the stand alone A/C since I stayed under the $400 I was authorized. The bigger issue here is when I discussed the potential for a small claims suit, the AHS POC I was speaking with said I was not “allowed” to file a small claims suit per my contract. According to the contract, any dispute has to be resolved via arbitration (a costly venture). This is complete bull. Signing away a judicial due process right is very unlikely to hold up in the eyes of the court. I’m still weighing the options, but I would prefer AHS just do the right thing.
Hi, William. We apologize that you had to endure many hot days while we attempted to figure out what was happening with your unit. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns and assist with the service fee and reimbursement issues.

I had moisture on the concrete on my carport floor and it was coming from the little utility room right adjacent to it. I called American Home Shield because I thought that it was the air conditioner since it is on the back side. The air conditioning guy came out and he said that it was a plumbing situation. Then a plumber was sent out and he gave me this big old spiel. He said that I needed to break up the concrete and the issue was probably something underneath. Then, he went back to the office and told them that it was an air conditioning issue.
The air conditioning contractor was sent out again but this time I requested for a different person. He had the door to the utility room opened which I had opened before so they could look in. They could see that there was no water flowing and it was just condensation. We have such high humidity that this is coming from underneath the air conditioner in the laundry room but it is not hurting anything. When the humidity drops, it is gone then when the humidity goes high, it comes back up. The guy that found out that it was condensation said that if anything is different, I have 60 days warranty on the repair. The 60 days will be up soon and so far, everything is still the same.
The difficult part in submitting a claim with AHS was speaking with people with broken English because it was very hard to understand exactly what they were saying. They were being nice and they tried their hardest. But sometimes, it was just frustrating because I couldn’t quite get everything that they were saying. But what upset me more than anything was I had to keep calling American Home Shield because I was charged $125, which is the normal fee, then I was charged $125 again. I authorized the first but I did not authorize the second one. There should have never been a second one. I also kept getting emails telling me that I owe them money.
I called them and said that I didn’t owe them anything and they said they’d take the charge off. But a week later, there it was again on the email. I called them again, then there it was again. I called them this last time and they said that it would not appear again so I’m waiting to see if it would. AHS needs to have some improvement and have some better communication in their office.

It was extremely easy to go online and make a claim with American Home Shield. I filed one for a failed garage door opener. The process was very simple and I was amazed that I had gotten the response back from them within two minutes. It was really fast. They had emailed and advised me which of their local suppliers here in the Woodburn area would be coming. Then within two minutes of that acknowledgment, I received an acknowledgment from the supplier. They texted saying that they were the ones and they were verifying that the appointment window was going to work for me. It was extremely well-organized.
When the technician was here, he was very knowledgeable, professional, prompt, and clean. He said things with the garage opener were further gone than he thought. He could repair it that day, but I'd probably call them again the next day because he felt that the repair would not last. He really looked into it and wanted to make things right for me by going through the steps to see if a repair could happen, so then it would be less expensive overall. It was nice to have somebody that did that rather than saying all he could do was to repair it, so that is what he would do. The technician had his office reach out to the appropriate department in American Home Shield to get the authorization to completely replace the garage door opener as opposed to repair. It was authorized and they did everything right at the same time. I was extremely impressed with American Home Shield and have recommended them to other people already.

There were two plumbing issues in the house, a leak in the sink and a toilet that was not operating properly. I did my claim with American Home Shield online and it was easy. I liked the process. Also, I heard back from the contractor quickly. Although, it was a little bit confusing because the two different issues were assigned to two different plumbers and I ended up scheduling two visits on it. There were two different days in order to fix the problems that likely could have been combined into one appointment. It wasn’t too much of a hassle, but it was kind of odd.
Both the contractors were really good. The person who came first and helped to diagnose the problems did an excellent job. And then, the gentleman who came for the second appointment was also very good. Everything is working fine now. I would recommend AHS. It’s a worthwhile service especially for older homes that typically experience these sort of plumbing problems.

The blower on the AC unit wasn't working so I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. Then I called the contractor, they came out and fixed the issue. The contractor was wonderful. We had a little miscommunication for the appointment time and he came on his off time. He didn’t realize he needed to call me, but he came at the end of the day and made everything good. He placed a part on the AC and had us up and going so we could sleep that evening. It was a very pleasurable experience. The` people were quick and efficient. AHS is a great idea and I recommend everybody to them.

I had a leak in my toilet tank that was coming out onto the floor so I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone and had very good interactions with their rep. They texted the information to me and then the contractor called me. The contractor was very nice and very professional. The only thing is that he didn't have the parts, so they had to order the parts and it delayed the fixing of the toilet for four days. But the toilet is now working perfectly. I would recommend them.

There was water leaking from my AC since the condensation pipe wasn’t fixed right. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the online process for doing that was easy and straightforward. The reps were very pleasant and they resolved the issue quickly. After I submitted the claim, someone from AHS called me and said that they would contact a contractor, then the contractor called. The techs that came and fixed my AC were also quick and easy to work with, and the quality of the work they did was great. The customer service has been good and very efficient, and the part that was covered by AHS was great. All went very well and I would highly recommend them to others.

One day, we woke up and the house was hot. The air conditioning was making a humming noise and it wasn’t kicking off. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and it was very easy to do. They then called me about an hour after I made the claim, and then the guy that was supposed to come out called me about four hours later.
The rep I talked to from AHS side was great, but the guy that they hired was horrible. I was at work and had a pregnant wife at the house and he was just rude from the get-go. He stayed there for five seconds and then he tried to write a false claim. He said the whole unit was ruined and he tried to sell a whole new unit. But the second contractor that came out was great. He was able to go in there, pinpoint the problem in about 15 minutes and then he stayed the extra to check and make sure everything else was working fine. The problem was just a capacitor and he fixed it with an $8 piece that same day. The AC is just back to where it was before and I recommend American Home Shield.

Our AC went out last month during a stretch of 100 degree heat index days. AHS was called and could not get anyone out to our home for over a week. With a pregnant wife and a child who has asthma, we repeatedly called and eventually received a special "outside authorization" to find our own certified HVAC repair company to use. We did this and had someone out by the next day, where they confirmed my suspicions that the compressor was grounded and would need replacement. AHS was immediately notified and decided they wanted to get a second opinion from one of their contractors- who once again said they couldn't get out to our home until the following week.
AHS was called a half dozen times and eventually got someone to come out sooner after several false starts and rescheduling. This company confirmed the original diagnosis and we were finally authorized to have the work done. The company we had found on our own was quick and efficient in their work and our family was finally able to move out of the single room living conditions we had been enduring for well over a week.
We spent $5200 out of pocket (on top of our AHS deductible) and were told that a reimbursement check would arrive within 2-3 weeks. When that time had passed without any contact from AHS, we began calling them. Each call was well over 40 minutes of being transferred and lied to as they pretended to have no idea what we were talking about. We were given multiple addresses to send our supporting documents to in addition to being told we could not submit them electronically... only to later be told that we should have emailed our documents. Simply infuriating.
Now, 8 weeks later, we received a check in the mail for ten dollars. That's right, ten dollars. They hoped we would cash it without reading the fine print and let them off the hook for the remaining $5190 of incurred costs. Absolutely scummy business practices. Dealing with AHS feels like we are bargaining with an organized crime family. I am left with little recourse outside of public reviews. Shameful.

We contacted AHS on Aug 19th for an AC not cooling, today is Aug 26th and we still do not have service. The contract said repair or replace within 24-48 hrs. That is a hoax. They send Royal Air a really crooked co. to diagnose on 8/20th, and Royal thought it was a sales call and were trying to sell us a new unit for two times the cost of a new one. Both Royal and AHS keep giving us the loop and have not given us a definite date as to when the problem is going to be fixed.

The washing machine's pump went out. Submitting the claim for it to AHS went fine but it took almost three weeks to get the washer fixed. It was an issue from the parts company to the people who were doing the repair and the home warranty. We had to go to the laundromat twice a week because we have a grandparent that lives with us. We've spent about 100 bucks to go outside the house to get our clothes washed in three weeks and that was an inconvenience. It was recommended that the washer needed to be replaced because the pump was bad. A factory replacement couldn't be found and AHS sent out a non-factory pump. The technician came out and he explained to my wife when he fixed the washer that it probably wouldn’t last six months because it's an aftermarket part and it's a very weak pump.
Good morning Allen,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have the washer machine repairs completed. I would be glad to speak with you and/or your wife regarding the washer machine service claim.

The door of the washer was not locking properly, so I submitted a claim. The door is okay now. I submitted another service call for my heating and cooling, but that didn't go well. American Home Shield sent two service personnel and they differed by their opinions. My opinion was that AHS didn't consider the right recommendation. The cooling system for the lower bedroom was okay, but the upper bedroom was not cooling at all. This house is a little old and so is the compressor. The other person said the compressor should be covered by insurance, but the other guy said the compressor was so dusty, it needed some cleaning, and that was not covered. So, the unit was not fixed although it was covered.
According to the diagnosis, it is the compressor that is not working properly. The techs checked the fluid and they said that it is okay and the compressor is working. But, it is not cooling the upper bedroom properly, so it is still unsolved. American Home Shield sent me a letter saying I needed some cleaning and then it will work. I clean my duct and other things always, yet it is not working for me. Overall, however, the people at AHS are prompt. When I call for a service request, I receive a response in the shortest time. I worked with three service personnel and two of them were pretty nice and I was happy with them. But, one person didn't focus on the right point.

When we had an issue with our air conditioner, my wife submitted a claim online and we got a contractor within 24 hours. When he got here, we explained to him what was going on. He inspected the unit because there was an outside and inside part. He went back and forth a little while, and then he said that there was a Freon leak and that our system was an older system. He also said that AHS will only cover a small part of the cost to recharge the Freon. He didn't repair the leak and he didn’t recharge the Freon. I’ve put in about five requests with American Home Shield but only one turned out well. I wouldn’t recommend AHS for the cost. If I took what their service cost per month and put it in a savings account, I could have covered my repair expenses from that.

We were having problems with one of our AC units at our home. I called AHS to submit a claim and the rep that I talked to was very pleasant, interactive and had a very good follow up. A lot of times you get call centers and people will say they'd call you back and it takes a week, but with AHS, the rep called the next day. There were two companies that came out over the course of three weeks and they did a phenomenal job of replacing the AC unit, so I was very pleased with them. On the other hand, there was a bit of a snafu because they ordered the part and there was another contractor that was sent out, so that held up about a week, but it was resolved. In addition, our power went out right before they were about to finish. We had a storm so they were very apologetic and they said that we were closer than we were a couple of weeks ago. They came back the next day and knocked it out.
The AC's been working which was the main goal. I was very pleased with the quality of the work that was done and I would highly recommend the vendor. AHS needs to keep doing what they're doing. A friend of mine told us about AHS and the quality of the service they provide. We went online and looked at the reviews. There were some things that were negative, but we still went out for what our friend said. We followed through and it worked out. If someone would ask me about AHS, I'd tell them to apply.

I usually call American Home Shield to submit a claim and the first time, we had to go through something because we have just been here about two days over a year. The inspection showed that there were a lot of problems that needed to be solved to be addressed. I read through the warranty first to see what it covers, made the telephone call, spoke to someone, and told them what the situation was. When they approved, there was a $75 service fee. The contractors have always been great although a couple of times, we had to pay extra money for something. In general, the service we have received from their contractors has always been very good and they have fixed a faucet that has been leaking since we moved here.
However, I kept getting bills for $56.42 starting in late June for August. On July 11th, I paid the first payment of $56.25 and then, on August 3rd, I was informed that I was in arrears and needed to pay $169 and something cents. So, I called to find out what was wrong and the person I spoke with told me to disregard it after she looked through all our records. Then, about two weeks ago, I got an email that said I needed to pay a little closer to $200 to not be in violation of the warranty. I was really frustrated at that point, so over three days, I had conversations with different people, trying to get the payment changed. $56.42 was automatically deducted on the 24th of every month and I spoke with someone finally who said that we could work it out. I gave them all my bank information and she said that they would probably put it in then pull it out.
I didn't understand that I needed to pay three months in advance for our warranty and I want to be certain that the charge has been deducted for September, October and November since I've already paid for August, so I won't be in violation of anything. I will call to make sure that it will be correct going forward. However, I haven't called yet today because I get transferred to so many people that I have to watch myself, so I don't get too frustrated.

They couldn’t order the part because it’s discontinued so they replaced it instead and I was very happy. The people who came out to put the new dishwasher in were super courteous. We moved into a new house and I called American Home Shield for an issue about our A/C. There was water all around the base of the unit. My interaction with the rep on the phone was good and the first person that was sent out by American Home Shield corrected a short but didn’t really offer too much. The unit was felted and they wouldn’t cover that. They don’t cover the decking, so I had to hire someone to come out and replace all the decking. The guy was much better and he worked on it. I have two A/C units -- one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. He got both of them running, but there was a leak and so I called in the third time. Another technician is coming out today who would work on it again.
Each time I called American Home Shield, I had to call the contractor and I wasn’t super pleased with all of them. One contractor brought his dog with him, which was not very professional. The dog was running around the house and yard. He asked me if it was all right to take the dog out, but I couldn’t see him leaving the dog in the truck. The guy worked hard and he was there for an hour and a half, but he didn’t fix the problem so I wasn’t too happy. Now, they gotta come out again. We thought it was finished, but, after four weeks, it won’t cool anymore. I’ve got a senior technician coming out today and, hopefully, he’ll be able to do a complete diagnosis and tell me what’s going on with it.
So far, American Home Shield has been okay, but after today, I’ll find out whether I like them or not. Also, I paid for a full year when I set up the initial policy with them and it was supposed to be effective immediately. We moved into the house and we had air conditioning and hot water heater problems. However, they said I can only call in one issue within the first 21 days, so I had to wait 21 days before I could call them on the other issue. They should have told me upfront that there was only one issue I could call in.

I called AHS and told them so they sent someone out. There was a piece missing from a part of the pipe. The problem didn’t have anything to do with it but that was what the plumber was trying to tell AHS. By that time, I've already paid the $75 copayment to the company and then they weren’t able to fix it.
The contractor said that if we wanted them to come out again, they would apply the $75 fee but it should have been fixed since the part missing didn’t have anything to do with the parts that needed to be fixed. The warranty is valuable but I don’t like that AHS was being nitpicky about this piece missing. If I knew that there was a part missing and they were going to deny it, then I would've called anybody out to start with.

We dealt with the hot upstairs for four days, but had the whole house been that way, we wouldn’t have been able to stay in our house. AHS delivered on what they said they were going to do and it was what I expected. It’s a good service, but it’s a service that we don’t get an immediate response. She comes back and says he has 30 minutes to respond to her and if he doesn't then I can call back and she will reroute it to a different contractor. 45 minute conversation.
Saturday 3 pm - I call AHS again to check status. Contractor never called, I ask if they can reroute the call, they cannot as no other contractors are able to take calls because it is so late in the day. I tell them to cancel the call, credit me back my service charge and transfer me to a supervisor. She asks me three times why do I need to speak to a supervisor. I explain each time. Finally she agrees to transfer me. She leaves me on hold for almost 40 minutes and the call is disconnected.
Saturday 3:40 pm - I call AHS because I am at this point livid - as soon as it gets to a live person I am hung up on. Saturday 3:42 pm - I call AHS again, I am hung up on. Saturday 3:50 pm - MY SON calls AHS and miraculously he gets through. This gentlemen is able to confirm that they refunded me my service charge and cancelled the call - but openly admits, no supervisors are able to take my call; nor is he able to release an email address or any other means of contact for me to reach a supervisor OR their supervisor. He also confirms there is no way to leave a request online for a callback OR a review of the company. Where is the responsibility to A PAYING CLIENT (I pay monthly for this warranty)? Where is the responsibility to customer service in this situation with several different agents, all of whom treated me exactly the same - as if I did not matter? Underwhelmed to say the very least.

The two companies sent out were on a lower end of what they might charge AHS which could be the reason why they were selected. Their trucks didn't appear to be very clean and weren't very well marked that it was a professional water heating company. It looked like a sticker on a side of a white van which was surprising. I didn't pay much attention to the people when they arrived during the other times as far as their transportation and previously, the people who came in were dressed appropriately. AHS has been a good company for me. I like their services and they suit me as a property owner and manager. There's a bit more lag time though for the tenants but once you get yourself established and understand the process, and make it clear to your tenants that they won't get service quite as quickly as we would if we were going directly to a vendor, then everything's fine.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my clothes dryer that has been making a very loud knocking noise every time it turned on. The contractor fixed the dryer quickly not on the first visit but the second visit. They had to order a part. The contractor was great, professional, and was in and out which was exactly what I want whenever I’m having something fixed. My dryer is working perfectly. It is very quiet now.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for a plumbing leak and that experience was fine. So far, my overall experience with the reps when I talked with them over the the phone has been great. The contractor, K & S Plumbing Services, came out to fix the plumbing leak. But the leak had to do with my irrigation system and it had nothing to do with my home plumbing, so it was not covered by AHS. Nevertheless, the ability of the contractor to explain everything to me and the information that they provided were all good and my interaction with them was fine.

I’m very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I placed a service call for our air conditioner and we had to wait for a week to get somebody out. The unit made noise and the cold air didn’t come out. I called AHS several times a day to get somebody out because there is an elderly in the house. They always said that they were still looking for a contractor. Then, there was a confusion between two of their contractors. Moreno came out and AHS was supposed to cancel with another contractor but they failed to do it on time so Rick’s showed up as well. Rick’s left but since they still came to the house, even they didn’t do the repair, they submitted a claim to AHS who then charged $100 on my account. So I have $200 double-charged on my account for one service.
I’ve been with AHS for over a year and it got to the point that I just said, “Let me stop and try somebody else to see if it’s better,” and then I cancelled my contract. It’s been more than two months and I still get emails from AHS saying that I owe $100. I called them several times and explained to them that I already paid the $100 service fee. Every time I called, they promised me that they took care of it. On Monday, I called and the girl said that she took care of it, put me on hold for a long time and then she was typing a lot of things in the computer. She said she’s gonna send it to the department and they can void that $100 and hopefully, this time, that’s gonna be it. But then, since they keep saying that same thing over and over, I told her that I had the confirmation number. I had her name and I told her that I’m gonna call back tomorrow to follow up.
Good morning Christine,
I understand your concerns with your AHS experience. Per the review, I understand that your account was charged an extra service fee. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issue.

The interactions that I had with the representative as well as with the contractors were excellent. My AC has been working fine since the repair. The temperature is 107 degrees here today, so it would be awful if I didn't have air conditioning. Everything was very professional and I've been very pleased with AHS.

In the beginning, I submitted claims with American Home Shield by phone but it took forever on the phone, so I ended up doing it online, which was okay. I have two vents under my house and are supposed to be covered, but AHS said they are not covered and that an animal damaged it. But the company that diagnosed it said those pipes were so old and were not even up to code. AHS said that the company that diagnosed it offered to fix it for $2600, and I said, "Not this time." I also made a claim with AHS when something happened with the air conditioning. A contractor from Wiley Electricity came and did a little work on the ceiling fan. They also replace an outlet that turned out to be shorted out.

American Home Shield is the best out of the lot. I had AHS for nine years when I was in Houston and they did a bunch of repairs for me over there. Then, I've been with them for the last two years in Florida. When our washer died due to a mechanism that goes with the lid and also with the bearing in the dryer, I submitted a claim online. It was easy to do that and it took five minutes. AHS took care of it and sent people to fix the problem. The contractor, All Set Appliance Services, came out within a few days. The guys knew what they were doing and so now, the washer and dryer are working fine.

I called American Home Shield when AC unit wasn't cooling my home. I told them what was going on and they placed a service call for me. The company that they sent came the very next day and fixed the AC. But then the very next day, our unit was doing the same thing, so the contractor had to come back out a second time. Once they did, everything was fixed. The person went out of his way to come back and check on us later that afternoon to make sure that everything was still working properly. I was very satisfied with them.

I have been with AHS for years and have had a few minor claims with ice makers. 3 days ago my AC went out so we made a claim. I was diligent in going through my profile on AHS to make sure all my contact information was current and my wife’s phone number was deleted from the account as she does not answer numbers she does not know. After looking at my profile no changes were necessary as all my contact information was there and none of my wife’s. About an hour after my claim was submitted my wife informed me that she had a voicemail from A-US AC. I called them back within seconds and was placed in the cue on hold from 4:40 until it dropped me in the voice mail system at 5:00 pm. I left a voicemail explaining we had no AC and it was dangerously hot, could someone please call me ASAP.
After no return call the following day I called again at 10 am and again was placed on hold until again it went to voicemail. This time I went online and booked an appointment, unfortunately by now the next available appointment was 3 days out. I call AHS and asked if my profile had only my contact information why and how is the vendor calling my wife? Her response was “When you sighed up that’s what you gave us”. I signed up years ago and had updated my profile to reflect the new information but AHS doesn’t pay attention to that. They just use the old information you gave them the year you signed up. In essence when you update your profile it's busy work. You are doing just for your benefit and no one looks at it. This caused at least 1 day of delay!
At 4:25 pm I received a call from A-US AC and the gentleman said “I’m returning a call from Joe **”. He was not concerned at the least about the amount of time it took to contact me nor did he care about our family suffering in 100 degree heat while it took 2 days to call us back. This last question before he hung up on me was “Did you end up getting an appointment?” I replied “Yes… but” by that time he uttered “ok” and hung up. This morning the tech came and diagnosed my AC issue and said it was a leaking coil that was letting the Freon escape. He now has to submit the work to AHS for approval and most likely the very expensive AHS will only pay a fraction! The tech said they use to pay for Freon but recently stopped.
I have now realized what a worthless policy AHS has provided me with. I could have saved all the monthly payments over the years and had a tech out within hours and the unit fixed immediately. When this process has come to an end I will spend a great deal of time either praising AHS for doing the right thing or sharing my nightmare that my family of 4 has no AC with temperatures reaching over 100 and I could have no AC for a total of 7 days! UPDATE!! I just received a call from AHS and the coil for my AC is leaking. The ONLY thing they are covering is the coil, labor, the coil removal and $10 a bottle of the Freon.
So years of paying AHS protection from such disasters such as this will cost ME $2,200!!! They have figured out how to pay for nothing of relevance while promoting this feel good, be covered crappy insurance policy. Put your money in a jar use it and pay cash when something breaks and you will get it done faster and at a great discount. They have ripped me off and caused my family 5 days of misery with rude vendors and worthless protection. I have not read 1 positive review yet on AHS that should tell you everything you need to know! I am not going quietly. I will reach out to all the local news channels that have a RIP OFF segment as well as social media, they need to be kicked out of Texas!
Hi, Joseph. We apologize that you have had these issues with your policy. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to discuss your concerns.

When I signed my contract I was promised 24-hour service. When my AC went out I was told it would be 48 hours. I was scheduled with arrival between 1:00-5:00 & at 4:45 tech called and said running late. It is now 8:25 pm and he is a no-show. For 60 hours I, an elderly person, have had to live in a house that is 90 degrees inside. No call to let me know what is going on. When I call AHS, they have hung up on me twice when I wanted to know what is going on. They also charged me $100 in advance and I cannot get anyone to talk with me. All I can get is the call center in India. The heat is starting to take its toll on me and I am feeling ill but cannot afford to go to a hotel. I would never recommend a company that is non-responsive to its customers. I cannot even email them to ask for an explanation.
Updated on 08/30/2018: I received an email from a "customer service" rep for AHS stating they wanted to contact me regarding my post here. They want to address my concerns, however, I have to call them. Apparently they are not allowed to call me. I was left a phone number and an email address. I have called 6 times over the last 2 days, as well as leaving 2 voice messages and sending one email. Absolutely dead silence from them. I believe the only reason anyone reached out is because it appears on this site as if they are addressing my problems. That is not the case. I will definitely go with another home warranty company as soon as, if ever, they repair my AC, which was the cause of the original complaint.

Normally, I would need to get a plumber to come out, but he fixed it without us having to go in. In addition to that, whenever he got here, he was interacting with my sister’s kids. He was so cool. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield when I had a circuit breaker in the wall that went out along with a ballast in the light. Submitting claims has been easy every time. AHS had to order the ballast part. All fluorescent light fixtures have a ballast and I was surprised that AHS didn’t have a basic part when they knew that the problem was a ballast in a light fixture. So, we had to wait for four days to get one in.
Also, the contractors who were sent out here were on the ball once they started working. They didn’t make a mess and were cordial. I had no problems with the several claims that I submitted with AHS except for one company that I don't wanna see again. They might have charged AHS too much ‘cause they jerry-rigged the part that they put in. I knew that they were gonna buy a microwave and that they charged AHS for them to come out. They ordered the part, but they didn’t put it in. All they did was take two wires and run it through two different contacts, and then the microwave worked. Despite that incident, I have recommended AHS to several people.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and their process was really simple to follow. Their contractor came out, looked at it and fixed a couple of parts but it still didn't work so they had to go back and replace the whole thing. However, there wasn’t much communication with the contractor. Their customer service was great but they just forgot to call us back to reschedule the appointment to install the replacement parts. It took them a month to get back to us. Other than that, they worked fast and cleaned up after themselves. The dishwasher works perfectly now. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield considering they replaced the dishwasher for almost the same price for what we paid for the warranty itself.

When I called them on Monday, the rep said they have us scheduled for Tuesday but I wouldn't be at home then so she got me moved to Wednesday. I also asked to be first on the list so I can still get to work, and she said that they would come straight to our house on that day.
The techs were supposed to be here first thing this morning. I called them around 10 in the morning and asked if the techs had left and I got a different rep who was totally unprofessional. She said they had to load the truck and then they had a meeting which started right in and somebody would be calling me in just a second, and that was the end. I let them know I couldn't wait that long so they sent someone out two days after that.
With all the contractors, the actual service was always top-of-the-line. The only thing I worry about with that company is knowledge. They had to send someone out like four times. I also thought they would pay for more than what they did. The item was so big and I pretty much paid the whole bill. They only paid around 1,000 and I paid 5,000 out of pocket. My wife showed them the unit that was not cooling and they already knew what was going on. They changed the capacitor. They were there for 30 minutes at most and then they were gone. The AC has been fine since they came out and I was satisfied with the experience. We had a condenser go out on our refrigerator, and then we had replaced the capacitor in both of our units. AHS has been the home warranty insurance company for this rental property for over 3 years. The A/C unit experienced potential condensate leakage and it was reported to AHS on 7/26. AHS' contractor, who showed up for the same A/C unit on 6/22, came on 8/3. After a brief diagnostic, he concluded that (1) the platform which the furnace is sitting on is rotten and caused the furnace to tilt and not draining properly; and (2) the front cover of the furnace is missing. The contractor did not mention neither issues on his earlier visit on 6/22.
The weather has been over 100 degrees for over 3 weeks and the tenants (kids and adults) were without A/C for close to 2 weeks. On 8/8, an independent contractor (YWZ) was retained to fix the A/C. After a thorough investigation, YWZ found out that the condensate drain line was plugged; YWZ used pressurized nitrogen gas to blow open the stoppage; and the condensate drainage is now properly discharging. YWZ also indicated that the two openings in the front are original design of the furnace at the time of manufacturing. The tilted platform is caused by the blocked drainage line and is fixed by reinforcing with 4x4 from underneath.
It is clear that AHS' contractor did not perform his due diligent duty. On 8/14, a request for reimbursement of $195 was emailed to AHS. The request was denied because "there was no prior approval" and a "second opinion should have requested" before hiring an independent contractor. AHS always denied the request for second opinion in the past. Now AHS denied the request for reimbursement because of the same reason AHS has been refusing to do. Should AHS' contractor did its due diligent duty to fix the reported A/C issue, the tenants (kids and adults) do not have to suffer the extreme heat from 7/26 to 8/8 (13 days); I don't be forced to spend $195 to fix the issue; and I don't have to experience this frustration with AHS!

72 hr later I get a call saying, "WE CANNOT FIX YOUR AC DUE TO PRE EXISTING PROBLEMS," and read off a list of items that this man did not say anything about to me. I went back and forth with AHS for about two days and NOTHING. I tried to get an expedited second opinion and AHS said since it is not 105 degrees we cannot do that BUT IT'S 95 DEGREES IN MY HOUSE. Still, NO HELP!!! So I canceled my service with them... Why am I paying you all this money a month for you not to help me!!? I hope this company get put out of business... I said since that was the scenario I ask if I can look for other contractor she said yes and will make a note of it. I called American Home Shield and explained what happened but still wont reimburse me for anything since they didn't authorize me to look for other contractor and the agent who inputted the work order in the first place didst expedite even if I explained that it needs to be fix ASAP because it was leaking already. So in the end I have to shoulder everything. Big scammers!

Our pool pump stopped working and it turned out to be the drive in the motor. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was a very simple process. They had someone out here three hours in the time that I called. The technician who came out was very knowledgeable and friendly. He diagnosed the problem within a matter of minutes and took the time to explain to me what the problem was and what it was gonna take to get it fixed. The technician had to go back and get the new drive system for the pump. Then, he came back the very next morning on time when he said he was gonna show up and he corrected the problem. The whole time frame was about 24 hours from the time that I called to get it corrected so I certainly couldn't be happier with that situation. It was fantastic. Since the repair, we haven't had any issues with the pool pump at all.
Two weeks after the service though, our air conditioner went out. We live in Arizona, so that is a big issue. We struggled a little bit with that one because the air conditioner went out on a Sunday and we couldn't get anybody out. American Home Shield tried everything to get somebody to come out but these air conditioning service companies just don't work on Sundays. Then he explained about the air conditioning and said, "These two are older air conditioning." He told me that if money’s tight, I can still keep these, but I'm gonna have to do routine maintenance. Things are gonna break here and there and he told me they can come out and have it fixed. But he suggested that I save up and try to get new systems. He was right and I read about it. They were the original air conditioners from the house, so they’re old and they need to be swapped out.
Other than that, there was an extra charge on my account and I called AHS a week ago, and it’s already gone. I also called them because I had a roof issue with the house. They were very nice to go above and beyond. They explained how house insurance and home warranty work and what to say to the house insurance and how everything should work out. They didn’t need to take all that claim and it wasn’t their service. It was my homeowners’ insurance. But at least when I called my homeowners’ insurance, I knew what I was talking about and it was because of the home warranty. The rep spent 30 minutes on the phone with me talking about repairs and service. I’m really happy with AHS and I’ve recommended them. My contract will be over in September and I’m gonna renew it.

Our heat pump wasn’t putting out any air conditioning and it wasn’t getting the house cooled down. It was just heat that was coming out, even set at the lowest one. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. Sometimes, I can't get to an agent and it's a lot easier to go on my account. The technician that they sent did a good job. He was very professional and very quick on his workmanship. He saw that the coils were busted and tried cauterizing them again. Then he put a little bit of pressure on it to see if it was gonna hold but the whole thing exploded. He said that it was not good anymore. American Home Shield took care of everything and replaced the whole thing. I am very satisfied with them. Their prices are reasonable and they take care of me very quickly.
We are happy to hear that satisfactory service has been provided Christina. Thanks for providing the public with your AHS experience. Have an amazing week.

We had a claim put in and AHS refused to pay part of it. It had to do with our swimming pool and the electrical system in it and we assumed that they would pay it off or less the $75. It's complicated by the fact that we are out-of-town, and so we're scrambling to get this pool back up and running because we live on the East Coast and we're currently on the West Coast, in Seattle. You can't have a standing water in the pool and if it doesn’t get fixed, then the pool turns into a swamp pretty quickly, particularly in Florida where you got hot, humid weather.
The contractor AHS sent, Daniel from aquaBright, came out once in Florida on a project and this was the second time that we've used him and he's done a good job. He's very friendly and seemed to know what his business is so we were happy with that part. Up until this time, we've been very satisfied with AHS. We're working with them now to get the payment, but we have been disappointed that the claim has not been covered. Also, we haven't had any meaningful dialogue with them. We got a voicemail when we were sitting at the airport and we didn't have time to sit and digest everything. I'll follow up with AHS because I still don’t really understand why they didn’t cover the claim.
Good morning Terry & Becky,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience and the delay in service to have the pool and electrical repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the pool issue resolved.

My air conditioning was not working so I called American Home Shield and it took forever for them to answer. When I filed this claim, it was right there, but it took about three days for me to get a call from the repairman. The first time that they were supposed to come, I didn’t have anybody to stay for them to come. I was out of the country so I let them know that I would call to reschedule when I come back. I get my bill taken automatically. I saw that they charged me for them coming over already. I called them and said the repairman have not come over yet so I got charged before they even came. They said that they put it in there that they came. So I rescheduled the appointment and had somebody there. When the repairman came he said it was the generator.
I took about a week or so to receive the part so then I was out of the country again, and I got a text to call them that they got the part. I called them about a week once I came back because I couldn’t call internationally. When I let them know that I was back they already had sent the part back the day before, and they closed the case. The lady said I had to call them and open a new case. I was upset and she said, “Don’t worry. We have a message here that they're waiting to make the part reshipped again.” That was about three weeks ago the last time I spoke to them. Nobody ever called me back and my generator never got fixed. It's aggravating.
I've had AHS for many years that I'm at this house. I use them in every year once or twice and I still pay every month, and they take them automatic. I have to be in a contract for a whole year every year so to not have satisfaction on something that you pay that you don’t even use that much that’s how you know I'm not a happy person. It's not the first time I had a bad experience with American Home Shield and I told them that.

When I needed to have my fridge and freezer serviced through American Home Shield, I recorded the claim online then I received a call as soon as the business opened. The only thing that was frustrating was that we weren't able to get the second service for two weeks. It was really hard to buy groceries or a lot of frozen stuff because I was scared that it would all go bad should the freezer freeze up again and shut down then thaw all the food out.
The service was through Sears and they offered to come from Monday through Friday 9 to 5, which is not always convenient for people who have jobs. They were not willing to work with us on scheduling and they have a random person in some odd state setting up the appointments, so they didn’t really care if they get us in. On the other hand, the first contractor who they sent was more for an appliance specialist and he didn’t specialize in refrigeration. He wasn’t able to fully fix the problem but he was honest that he wasn’t able to fix it and that a tech more licensed in refrigeration should come out. He was also really knowledgeable and nice.

I called American Home Shield for our air conditioning unit that went out. Setting up the claim was a little confusing at first, but the rep finally understood what I was saying and then got somebody out here right away. It didn't take long to get the guy out here and he was very nice. When he found the problem, he had to order the part and I had to wait almost a week with no air conditioning. It was very hot when that happened. But everything has been fine with the unit since the repair.

Submitting claims with AHS over the phone takes some doing. They need to stop saying that they have a high volume of callers when we know that they have a short number of people answering the phone. They always try to make us feel that they're so busy and so important. When my air conditioning wasn’t working and I filed a claim, they assigned me a contractor who could not come until five days later. I'm a senior citizen and I did not want to be without AC for that long so I called AHS again. They immediately sent somebody else who was very good. He knew what he was doing and took care of the problem in a short time. I don’t know anything about appliances and I depend on AHS. I've been with them for so many years and sometimes I wish I would just switch to somebody else because they take so long to respond sometimes, but I'm still there, loyal. Moreover, I recommend them all the time.

Issue #1: Charged us for service that was never performed, and then took 3 months and multiple phone calls (to multiple people) and multiple emails to get it resolved. The run around to get this resolved was absolutely ridiculous. Issue #2: Sent a contractor to our home who was rude and disrespectful to my family, didn’t fix the issue we called in, broke her shower door (and claimed it wasn’t him) and then left it broken when he left. We complained about him (after the phone-run-around game and being on hold FOREVER) and AHS said that company was now on a do not call list for us… well, they tried to send someone from the same company for another issue a few months later!
Issue #3: PHONE RUN-AROUND/WAITING GAME is insane. Some of their customer service numbers lead to a dead end and literally hang up on you. Others “connect” you to a loud high-pitched ringing noise. And still others you will wait and wait and wait… and you will be ON HOLD FOREVER!!! Issue #4: Our hot water went out and I set up a service request online that same day, the company (from the do not call list) called to set up a time to come by the house. The soonest they could come by to look at it was a week later! I cancelled that (which was another 45 minutes on the phone with AHS)…. and called a local company who showed up within hours, and had it fixed within 24 hours! I have since called and cancelled AHS (another 20 min, and 2 phone numbers later) and feel better already - just hoping they don’t continue to charge my account. I will be monitoring it.

My husband and I recently bought a home in March 2017. AHS came free for a year in case anything went out. My husband passed away in January 2018 which he left behind a 4 month old son, a wife, 2 dogs and a new house. June 2018 my a/c unit went out which I called AHS to set up an appointment since I decided to renew it being a new single mom. I was told I would have someone call me within 24 hrs to set a time and date which I never heard from anyone. I had a friend that was nice enough to come out to see what was wrong which he fixed the problem to help me get by for the summer but he did say my outside was 20 yrs old and shot so he didn’t know how long it would last.
In July 2018 my unit went out again which I called AHS again. This time I got someone to come out the next day. They told AHS that the unit was bad and needed it to be repaired but also needed parts for it. AHS took a week to call me back which I had to call them everyday to get a update on my a/c. They were aware I was a newly widowed with a infant which they didn’t seem to care much. I then requested to speak to a manager but they said it would take 24/48hrs but again never heard back from anyone.
I finally got a call back from AHS which they said they requested a 2nd opinion which now it is going on a week out of our home. Another guy came out which this one said someone poured acid on the unit which is why it is not working. Really you are telling me a widower with a infant that works found acid to mess up the unit. Now going on 2 weeks out of our home AHS finally got back to me and said they will not cover my ac due to the acid. I then request to talk to a manager again which again never heard back from anyone. I called and requested again 4 different times to try to talk to a manager but again no one called me. I never had someone treat me so little and disrespectful like AHS has and did. I have paid every month as well and expected them to fix a broken appliance without the hassle I had to deal with. I canceled and filed a complaint but don’t want anyone else to have to go through what I did.

I’ve sold AHS warranties for the last 7 years to my clients purchasing or selling homes. Never again. I purchased for myself and have recently experienced trouble with my AC unit. After spending the 100 in deductible, we were told that AHS will not be helping us our with our AC issues, claiming that they do not cover “maintenance.” Trust me this is not maintenance when my handler goes out every day at 4 pm due to the heat. Just had a second opinion and the entire unit is not only hooked up wrong but the handler inside cannot work properly with the outside... So, my opinion on AHS? Find another company, I sure will, not just for myself, but all future clients. I sincerely hope they haven’t done my clients the way they have treated me... Honest, nope. And I only work with honest and reputable companies as I try to give the best to my clients. After my experience, I will also be contacting the BBB and **. Shame on you, AHS.

I have received poor service regarding the replacement of my water heater. This is not the first offense. On 8/11/18 I put in a claim because my water heater went out. AHS sent a tech on 08/14/18 who advised that outside of the cost to buy a water heater and the labor to put it in I would have to pay them an additional $933 of which I was never provided an itemized worksheet. AHS advised that they would not cover these "modifications" and I would have to pay the $933 out of pocket.
I looked over my contract several times to see where it outlines what is covered under water heater and what is not and I feel it is vague on purpose. Me paying almost $1000 for this repair defeats the purpose of the warranty, and I have used AHS more than once before and never paid anything outside of the deductible, but they already took my $125 deductible so I decided to look into it. I asked for a copy of the worksheet by calling AHS and the contractor several times and never received it.
Finally I asked an AHS phone rep now 5 days later to look it up and give me the information over the phone so I could write it down. I consulted 2 additional plumbers who both advised that several of the "modifications" the contractor AHS sent out stated were needed were not needed, but AHS said they don't have any control over what the contractors quote. But wouldn't you think they would try to employ honest people who work in the best interest of the consumer? With that I called and asked if I could employ a contractor of my choosing or get a second opinion. I was told they would not send someone else out, but could cash me out an amount to buy a new water heater and for an estimate of the labor.
What I was not advised is the cashout amount is based on wholesale prices AHS would receive for the unit and labor, so the $527.95 I was offered will just about cover a water heater only. Offering the consumer a wholesale cash out makes no sense seeing as I cannot get those prices. I asked if they could at least send me the water heater that was already ordered so that I could get that price and I was told no. I asked if I could still use their contractor and refuse the "modifications" and I was told no.
Either way I am losing money on a warranty that claims to cover consumers in these times of need. In a prior experience I was given a time window and a date for a contractor to come and repair my air conditioner and no one ever came. I wanted in a 90 something degree house all day with my pet, and took off work for no one to come. I have had a very poor experience. Today I called and waited on hold over 30 minutes, was then transferred and hung up on. AHS really needs to step it up. I will be running to employ a new warranty company who has a better contract and uses more reliable and fair contractors.

The A/C went out on a Thursday and I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) to get it repaired. The contractor arrived Friday and after 3.5 hours of working, he located the issue causing the A/C to sporadically turn on and off and not cool properly as the A/C controller. 5 days later, AHS leaves me a voicemail to notify me they are refusing to repair the A/C system. I immediately called AHS and the rep was unable to explain why the unit will not be repaired under the warranty (my warranty includes Air Conditioning System and Ductwork System coverage). The AHS rep kept reading a scripted statement that the repair is declined because the part does not fall under the warranty contract.
I do not claim to be an HVAC guru, but I am not sure how the controller for the A/C unit is not part of the A/C system. So I asked further questions to try and understand why AHS was refusing to stand behind their contract to cover my A/C system. The AHS rep kept repeating the same exact statement and would not answer my question, so I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager. He responded yet again with the same scripted response and ignored my request to speak to a supervisor. Because this call was not going anywhere, I told him I would call back and try to talk with someone else who would listen to my question and answer it.
I then spoke to 3 more AHS reps, and not a single rep from AHS could explain how the A/C controller is not part of the A/C System. One AHS rep even admitted he did not understand why it was be declined and he was going to get more information and call me back in 15-30 minutes. After 12 hours I decided he had no intent of calling back regarding the issue and reached out to AHS yet again. At this point a fourth AHS rep responded with the same, apparently scripted response, and not a single rep from AHS could provide an explanation for why the A/C controller is not considered part of the A/C system.
So after 5 days of the A/C constantly turning itself on and off and not cooling the house, I had to pay out of pocket to replace my A/C controller because American Home Shield refused to stand behind their warranty. Beware that American Home Shield will do everything possible to get out of standing behind their warranty. If a part is not listed specifically in the fine print of the contract they will refuse to do anything related to that part, regardless if it is part of a larger system. This means that AHS will only cover the 4 or 5 items specifically listed in the fine print and not the system as they advertise to you as a consumer.
I asked for clarification on this and their reps confirmed that if the part is not specifically listed they would not cover it. If you are to purchase a home warranty from AHS, try and get a list of each component in writing prior to agreeing to their contract. I was never given any such list prior to signing their contract and was told by their sales dept when purchasing that it covered the whole 'system' rather than the specific components of what they do and do not cover (this is also how they advertise on their website). Their sales strategy is very deceiving and dishonest.
In summary, it became very obvious to me that American Home Shield does not care about their customers. AHS took 5 days to decide not to fix my Air Conditioning in Georgia in August, so that speaks for itself. Beware that American Home Shield does everything possible to refuse standing behind their warranty, and even their customer service reps are unable to explain why AHS will not uphold their contract.
