I have 4 homes insured by AHS for over 15 years. AHS replaced the AC unit in my home in 2014 with a Goodman Unit. I have issues with this unit every year since it was installed and have had to pay out over $2000 in Freon due to leaking coils. Again this past July 2018 the AC broke down and after 2 techs have come out they said it was the outside coil that was bad. AHS has just denied the replacement! They put a lemon unit in and after over 50 hours on the phone they have the audacity to deny the claim saying it was not normal wear and tear as if I would damage the coil! I have had the run around from this warranty dept and it is apparent they have no loyalty to their customers. If someone from AHS is reading this please let me know how to contact someone as I will probably have to file a lawsuit due to the mold that has started to grown in my basement due to their negligence and dragging out the repair process.

Updated on 10/05/2018: I continue to be put on Hold in order to speak to someone in the escalations dept only to have the line disconnected after holding for 1 hour! I was called once by a supervisor and told they would discuss with the Heating and Cooling Company a replacement unit as it seems from the findings of the AHS supervisor I have gotten a "lemon" unit. I spoke to the heating and cooling system and AHS has never even called them. I can not seem to get through on the phone to anyone in the AHS escalations dept as I am continuously put on hold and then disconnected.

Updated on 10/14/2018: AHS has still not reached out to me to resolve my AC issue first posted on 9/17/2018. Despite multiple phone calls and speaking to escalations. I do hope that this company is sincere in its attempt to reach out to me. If so please do so.

HE HUNG UP ON US. Worst customer experience I've ever had with any company.

I submitted the AC claim with American Home Shield online and it was very easy. I did it in the evening and I heard back from the shop the next morning. They also came on time and the technician may have had the parts with him. He fixed the issue within 15 minutes. Before he came, the fan had been blowing but there was no cold air coming out. But since the repair, it's been working great. The contractor was very professional and knowledgeable as well. They were great and I would recommend American Home Shield.

The electricity in my kitchen on one side of the wall stopped working and I filed a claim to American Home Shield online. Somebody called me that same night and AHS sent Wiley Electric the next day. The electrician said I was using too many appliances at one time which threw the breaker off. They reset it and it was done in no time. They were great and very professional. It was a good experience with AHS.

American Home Shield sent technicians to come and check on a leak on my air conditioner. They had to come out twice to get it fixed correctly 'cause I have three air-conditioners and it turned out that the leak was in a different air conditioner. I ended up with a new air conditioner unit and it was a little bummer for me 'cause I bought an air-conditioner. We just moved in and I called almost every other day to have somebody come out. I was happy with what the people that came out did, but I wish they had done a little more follow-through.

I had to put our guest in a hotel room because the upstairs did not have air conditioning so it was a bit of a disruption but everything is working now with the air-conditioner. I appreciate that when I call AHS and ask for a repair person to come out for the same request, they didn't charge a $75 fee, and they did that twice. Their response was also immediate and I'm very happy with it. I recommended American Home Shield to my neighbor and said that it is one of the best things we did every time we moved in to a new house.

The AC wasn’t cooling so I called American Home Shield. It was super easy with the claims reps and Advantage Air came out two days after I filed the claim. The tech was great and he explained everything. But then I had another issue again, so I filed an additional claim with AHS. Advantage Air came again and they found that there was a leak that they had to fix. They fixed that and the AC works perfect now. AHS is doing a great job and I would highly recommend it.

The outside compressor unit of the air conditioner stopped working. I switched it off and back on several times on the inside. I also had my wife do it while I was outside watching the thing and nothing would happen when she turned it on. I sent a claim to American Home Shield online and I got a response right away acknowledging that a claim has been submitted. They also gave me the information on the repair service that was gonna be coming out. The gentleman that AHS sent out checked the air conditioner out, and he replaced an electric component and then it worked fine. I was very satisfied with my experience and AHS has excellent service. I've had a series of incidents recently and they've been very, very gracious and prompt about getting these things taken care of. I have recommended them to family and friends and several of them did a contract with AHS.

A couple of months ago, our sink was backing up and I filed a claim with AHS. When the plumber came, I explained what the problem was and he diagnosed it. He then explained what he was gonna do and at the end, he told me what they did to resolve the problem. It was good. And the sink is working perfectly now. I'm a big fan of the service from AHS. We’ve been using for them for years and we’ve never had an issue. Having a warranty on my property gives me peace of mind and I don’t have to worry about a repair costing me a major unplanned expense.

When something goes wrong, like when my air conditioner didn't work and was not blowing cold air, I call them and they send somebody out. But they couldn't fix something at the California house and we had to have people come a second time. Apart from that, I always recommend AHS and in fact, I told a friend of mine who messaged me on Instagram asking for the name of the company that we use.

The dryer was making a noise, so we called American Home Shield and made the claim, and then they sent out the appliance company. The guy came out and took the dryer apart, and found out what was wrong and ordered the parts, and said he'd be back in a few days. They came back within a week and fixed it up. I couldn't be happier with them. The technician was very courteous, very clean, and quiet. Everything was just top-notch. We also had a problem with the dishwasher and AHS was gonna replace it with a cheaper model that we weren't really interested in, so they ended up giving us some money towards a new one. So that worked out good. I would recommend them.

When I tried to make a claim online, I couldn't do two items, so I can't deal with multiple items online. If your washer and your dryer and your refrigerator all had problems, the contractor would come out for one service charge and fix them all. You can only report one item online, and you have to do the other item on the phone. But whenever I call AHS, they are pretty easy to deal with and everything is pretty straightforward.

Three years ago, when I was working with my original contractor from American Home Shield, I wasn't too happy. Even so, AHS would always send him out. Eventually, we got our contractor replaced. One time, our air conditioner was making a loud noise which was from it's fan motor. I easily submitted a claim online to AHS. The repair took two weeks as the contractor had to order the parts. Still, when he came back out, even though the next day was a Saturday, he did the repair. The refrigerator has been working well ever since the service. AHS's warranty is worth the money for the coverage that people have through them.

My last claim was for a home in Riverside and it was for a plumbing. The drain didn’t drain quickly and the contractor fixed it in fifteen minutes. They were there in the window and they just came and got their jobs done. However, I’ve been on hold for more than an hour with the reps, which is insane. Also, they make these appointments and then no one shows up. I end up calling back and re-doing it. I will not use American Home Shield again. I’ll never pay for them again.

My washing machine was leaking and I called American Home Shield. They sent somebody over to the house and it turned out that the transmission was going bad. The guy that came over to fix it searched and couldn't find a replacement for it 'cause it was an older unit. Then he turned all that information into AHS and they said they were gonna do a search on their own. Two weeks went by and we still hadn’t heard from American Home Shield if they found the part or not. So, they called me and explained to me what I already knew about the washer. Then I told them that I had been waiting to hear from them about the replacement part, but the rep didn’t have that information and had to call the parts department, then I got hung up on. Prior to that, my wife was on the phone with them and got hung up on as well.

When I finally got a hold of AHS, I asked how long I had to wait because water would be covering my floor everytime I’d do my wash. The rep then said that we would have to wait three business days, but I told her that it had been two weeks. Then the very next day, I got a call and they said that they couldn’t find the replacement part and they were gonna send me either money or the replacement unit that they offer. So my wife took care of that and they ended up replacing the washer.

The washer was sent to the contractors in Buffalo and they had to deliver to my house in Erie. The guy who was driving the truck was great, but his helper was a complete ignorant ass. When they got half of my washer to my back half of basement where my washing machine is, they need to come into the finished part of my basement to go upstairs. They picked the old one out, but they never drained the complete bottom of it and black, soapy and almost look like oil and water started spilling out onto my carpet. Instead of stopping there, the kid said that we had to know it was gonna have water leaking out of it. We had no idea and they continued to go right up to the stairs and right out of the house where they were dripping. The tile and hardwood upstairs floor was cleaned up but I had these big black stains.

My wife called the people at the place in Buffalo and the lady was nice and she asked her to take pictures of it and send it to them to see if they could straighten it out. While in the meantime, I called the company to complain about how the guy was towards my wife 'cause I wasn’t home and the lady was super nice to me and apologized. Then she said she already got the pictures and showed to her supervisor and that they wanted us to have it cleaned as soon as possible and send them the bill. This happened on a Friday and my wife got somebody to clean it up on Monday. So, as it turned out, some of them lightened up and some of them didn’t even go away. So, she told my wife just to take care of that, take pictures of it, take pictures of the bill and send it to her and they would take care of everything.

The people that AHS have representing them are fantastic, and over it’s a great cost. Now, the washer issue was resolved. Even my son who works for a big insurance company here in Erie and his girlfriend’s parents think it almost sounds too good to be true. But they’re solid and they’re kosher in how they handle it. It's just some of the people that are working for them just aren't there.

You have to call them to follow up on everything and the people that answer the phone for them are absolutely awful. They don’t have a clue and are making it miserable for you before they try to find any information. Also, if I call them, I expect to be put on hold until I get to be the next person. And when they call me at work, they put me on hold till I'm the next person, which doesn’t make any sense. If they’re calling me, they need to talk to me and not put me on hold. Fortunately for my wife, she can just put the person on hold or just put it on speaker and just wait for somebody to come there. She was put on hold for over an hour when they called her in her office.

The AHS reps also did the same thing when I had my air conditioning taken care of. Only one part of it went and because it was an older unit, they couldn’t get the actual air handler to match the outside condenser with the new ones so they had to install a whole new system. But they were great about what it covers and handling it. I love the whole concept of American Home Shield and it's a good thing to have. My neighbors are hooking up with it after we showed them all the stuff that we've got with AHS. Also, two guys here at work are planning on signing up for it too.

We had a light switch that arced when we were having some storms so it blew out half of the power in my house. I called American Home Shield and they took the information about the problem. They were very concerned about me being halfway in the dark and it being electrical. Within a couple of hours, I had the contractor company calling me and they came out that same day. They were very quick and efficient, and they fixed the arcing of the wire.

I'm OCD about cleanliness and they cleaned up everything plus took away their trash. We had some residual that happened to the ceiling fan and the technician told me what I needed to do. He was very professional, funny and talkative. I really enjoyed the visit. AHS saved me. If I did this outside of my warranty, it would've cost me more to get an electrician to come in and do lots of repairs. The warranty is a money-saving tool in the long run. I recommend American Home Shield.

The refrigerator was not keeping anything cold and I was buying a gallon of milk every other day because it was spoiling. It was also leaking water a little and it went on for a while. I called American Home Shield and the claims reps listened to my concerns and they sent somebody to look at it. It took the contractor about two weeks to get here, although they are usually really fast. He didn’t talk a whole lot, but he said it was fixed. However, after he left, I had the same problem and the milk was still spoiling, so I tried to call him myself but couldn’t get him. I called American Home Shield back and explained that and they told me to call them first if it happens again and they’ll contract it. They ended up sending a different contractor the next time.

When the second contractor came out, he asked who has been looking at the refrigerator and I said that he was the second contractor. He asked if I spoke to someone else and what they told me. I said that he said it was fixed. The second contractor saw so many things wrong with it and said that it was not fixed. He also told me that he was gonna have to tell AHS because it was gonna take a lot. He was saying a lot of stuff and I didn’t know how could one say something so different, but I was more in agreement with the second one because the milk spoiled no sooner than the other one left. After he said what all needed to be done, he felt it was cheaper to replace it. If it wasn’t fixed, AHS would keep getting somebody to come out here and look at it. AHS replaced my refrigerator and I had to call to see when they were going to deliver it, and it happened in about two weeks.

The refrigerator is nice and it's similar to the one I had. It is almost identical, although just a little newer model. I really wanted to upgrade and they gave me an offer, but I had to buy the refrigerator myself and send them the invoice, then they will reimburse me up to the amount they allowed on the other refrigerator. This refrigerator that I wanted was about $200 more, but I only had around $1000 to pay for the refrigerator. Still, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield. I've been with them for about a year and I’ve had two claims, and I was satisfied with the outcome of both claims. I had a problem with my washing machine and they sent someone right out. If it takes a little longer, sometimes it’s not their fault. They contract it out and they look for the contractor to set the appointment up. AHS is worth the money. Try them because you never know when something may go wrong in your house.

Since I cannot get this issue resolved by the phone maybe I will have better luck here. My wife and I purchased a policy when we purchased our new house back in June. We called and scheduled an appointment to have our dishwasher looked at for a leak in early August. The technician came out to the house and evaluated the dishwasher, fridge and microwave and wrote up the parts needed for all 3.

After a couple of weeks and a couple of calls later we finally were told that the parts were on order. After not hearing anything my wife called on September 1st and was told that the technician never filed the paperwork and that you were going to have a new company call us and set up a new appointment after Labor Day (Sep 5th). After not hearing anything I called back on the September 12th and talked to a person who was very apologetic and told me they were escalating the issue so that she would have the issue expedited so that it would be resolved within 48hrs.

Tonight I talked to yet another person and it seemed like there was no record of any of the previous calls, it seemed like I was starting over. I asked several times to speak to a manager but never got one. The resolution that was provided was to have a company call me tomorrow to set up an appointment. When I informed her that this was unacceptable and wanted the issue escalated immediately the call was disconnected.

Needless to say my wife and I are beyond aggravated with the lack of service and follow through from your company. I understand that the company you contracted to do the service did not do what they were supposed but we pay you for the service and expect you to have a clear escalation process and honor your commitments to us. If we do not get a satisfactory resolution by the end of this week we will be forced to challenge the charge on our credit card and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We are about 2 months into a year long contract and I am starting to feel like a victim of fraud.

When you purchase a home warranty you expect the work to be on time and for the cost of the deductible. Not so with American Home Shield. I put in my order online when my AC went out and the service provider called that same evening and came out the next day. They were even early. I was so happy, thought this is great. That’s where the problems began. I need a new compressor, so American Home Shield has to approve it. It took them four days to do so. It’s summer in Texas! Finally get the approval on a Monday and then the contractor can’t come out till Thursday! They also want me to pay $600 out of pocket, because they don’t cover the extra parts required to get it up to code! Are you kidding me?! Part of your agreement isn’t to make sure it’s up to code. My elderly mother has been having a great time with the heat downstairs in my house. It’s Monday so I hope she can make it a few more days. This is unacceptable.

Our refrigerator started leaking. The repairman came out twice to fix the problem. The first time not too much was done, the fridge kept leaking. Calling again 2 people showed up, they actually found a problem but it did not fix the leak. Now I am trying to call a third time. After being kept on hold for more than 30 minutes somebody actually picked up the phone. I requested to speak to a manager, no luck. I was transferred back to the main menu and had to start all over again which I did. After a long wait I got somebody on the line. While providing information the call got interrupted. Nobody called back even though you have my phone number. Guess I have to try again. This whole affair has been very disappointing.

Paying AHS for over 12 years $65.00 a month. Water heater went out. They will replace water heater only. They would not pay for water heater pan, and three other modifications that was needed to be able to replace heater. AHS stated not covered in contract, but I can add that to it for next time at more expense. When water heater needs replaced, all components should have been covered. What a rip off. This is costing me another $350.00 to have completed.

Updated on 09/28/2018: I didn't even want to give one star. Representative said they would get back with on my complaint. That was 2 weeks ago, and still nothing from them. It seems their people who follow up is not doing their job either. Very bad relations. Need to part ways with AHS. Customer service terrible.

I recently submitted a claim over the phone for a fan relay switch that needed to be replaced and it was quite easy. The contractor is a young man who is very busy since he does a lot of work for Home Shield. However, I did not like the way that AHS did the billing. They billed me before he ever did the work and I had to pay $75. A week or two later, when he came and did the finished work, he hadn’t even submitted a bill yet. But he was absolutely outstanding. He had to order a part and he came back and replaced the switch. Now it works perfectly.

I have learned to submit a claim with American Home Shield online and the most recent one went quick and perfectly great. It was for the pool where the filter was leaking. The contractor came out and he was knowledgeable, nice and efficient. He fixed the problem within a very short period of time and the whole process was perfect. We now have clean water and the pool worked more efficiently.

All the most recent transactions that I've had have been excellent. I have called American Home Shield four times max, two times of which were with the pool and both were handled expeditiously. But my first experience wasn't so great. It was with the AC and I ended up canceling that because we couldn't go for four days during the hot part of the summer to have somebody come out and still wouldn't have known what would be wrong to be fixed for longer than that. One of the main reasons that someone would have a service like this is to have access within a reasonable amount of time, and when it comes to Texas hot, AC resolution is really important. Still, American Home Shield is great.

My recent experience with American Home Shield was not good and I didn't like it. Everything was right with the technician, but when I called the customer service, it was not nice. The technician was doing his job and it was the third time that they came to my house to fix the AC. The first time, they sent somebody and they fixed it. But one week after, there was the same problem so I called again, and they sent a different person that fixed it. It was something different but about the same because the AC unit that I have in my garage is still leaking. Before, something was stuck on the drain so they cleaned that and everything was fine but it was leaking inside the unit.

I called Thursday last week and talked with somebody late in the evening then I called again on Friday to make sure that I have an appointment. They said that I can have an appointment on Monday between eight and one, then I asked them to call me an hour before so I can be home. Monday came but nobody called me. I was waiting and at 10 o’clock nothing happened so I called. I spoke with a guy and he said that I don’t have any appointment for that day. He didn't have any customer service at all. I told him to check, and they have my call and I was told that they were going to send me somebody. He said that he didn't have anybody that day so I have to wait until tomorrow.

The technician came and tried to fix the problem. But he needed some parts and he told me that if he was ordering them, it was going to take 10 minutes. But he said that if I want the service to be quick, I can call the office and ask if they already ordered the part, and be on top of them. He was making a suggestion. It was not a good way but I understood so I said that I will help him and call his office. I asked him why I have to be on top of them but he said he cannot tell me, but he ordered the part but he doesn’t know when their office is going to order it. While he was here, I asked him about what happened yesterday and he said that he was sick. Their office should have done something better if I have an appointment and nobody was gonna come and just didn’t say that I don’t have an appointment. Other than that, my experience with American Home Shield was good and they are always on top whenever I call them.

The contractor came after a day we called AHS and he was very clear about what he was doing. He opened up the unit, found out what was wrong, went and got the parts and he fixed it.

We've had several different service requests with American Home Shield and we've gone through the process several times. We had a failure with one of our AC systems and we did an online service request and then they assigned us to a provider. The provider contacted us and we scheduled their service visit. The technician came out, inspected the unit, determined that it was not functional and that we needed to replace it. He submitted that diagnosis to American Home Shield and then, they contacted us with an upgrade offer. We paid our portion and then AHS covered the additional cost and we replaced the entire system. The technician was good. Our interaction worked seamlessly and it was one of the best.

We've had some other issues with other service requests that didn't go quite as smoothly though. We have a Wolf oven and range top, and since we moved in, the oven door has not been closing fully. We've contacted American Home Shield 20 times to find a service provider that services this type of stove and oven. We finally found a service provider that would deal with it and they came out, but they didn't fix the problem. We called AHS back to try to get another service provider and we were tossed around to the same set of providers that don't service that brand. With my husband being very persistent, and after hours on the phone, we were finally able to convince AHS that we needed to get a professional who knew how to handle that particular appliance.

We found our own provider and got authorization from AHS to proceed with that provider. The provider came out and suggested that we replace some parts. We were working with the provider directly but at that point, I didn't know what was covered and not, and it was not easy dealing with AHS on that particular service order just because of the brand of the appliance that we have. It could be a frustrating process to deal with a middleman that doesn't really understand the nature of the problem and dealing with different representatives each time. I'm sure that there were notes in the system, but it was hard to follow sometimes when so many calls had been made and there was a new person going through the same explanation each time before we move forward.

Another experience I had was when the work order on the oven got transferred and we had another service at the same time, and there was some mix-up within the system. We had paid a service fee and I had to make multiple phone calls to try and get that resolved. Every time I talked to someone they said that they'd resolve it for us but it would still show up and I would still get a notice that I owed this past few service fee so that was a bit of a frustration too and it went on for about a month and a half. Those were the two issues that we had so far with their service, but we had other requests that went very smoothly like the AC so it's a balance. American Home Shield is what we expected with a home warranty company.

I had an issue with my air conditioner and I went online to put in a claim with American Home Shield. It was a simple process. I clicked on what appliance I have an issue with and once it was submitted, I waited and got a confirmation. And then, the reps gave me a call and let me know about the scheduling. The contractor came out fast which was within 30 minutes to an hour.

We talked about what was going on with my air conditioner. I told him that when the air was on, it would start going warm but it wasn't getting cool at all. We would have to cut it off each time, reset it and start it back up. I had a service last year from a different warranty company and we were afraid if the same thing was going on. The tech came, checked everything and said the unit was low on Freon. It was repaired the first time and then days later, it wasn't working again. We had to call him back out and he told us that a capacitor had shorted out and he switched that out.

This time, the contractor from AHS said the Freon was out so he recharged the system up and the unit has been working since. He was also recommending the age of the system and that we may have to get a new one down the line. Overall, it was a good experience. My mom has AHS too and if anyone asked, I'd tell them it's a good thing to have but to make sure that they're getting the coverage they want. But once they've signed up, they talk to a representative and it's pretty cut and dried.

If you’re talking about a refrigerator out or a toaster or a microwave, you can deal with it, but you’re talking about air conditioning in South Carolina in August and two weeks was unacceptable. I got a different answer every time I called. “We’re waiting on parts,” “We’re waiting on a quote from parts,” “We can’t find the parts.” And then I would call back and then, “Well, we’re gonna replace the unit,” and I got the runaround. I’m not too confident in the contractor that comes out for my air conditioner claim. They don't thoroughly detect everything that could be wrong with the system. They're more in a hurry to get it over with as quick as possible then just go. The air conditioner wasn’t blowing cool air and he probably could have seen and checked the unit while he was here back in the July when I first filed a claim. But he didn't and later on, the same issue became a worse one and ended up costing me more money.

I did the first claim over the phone. Then I did the last one online, which was easy after you've created your log-in. After that, I had to contact the contractor. But the person who came out was like a salesperson. I still don't have any air conditioner and they had to order the part, which he actually ordered today. But he was pretty much trying to sell me a new unit, instead of ordering the part which is covered by the warranty that I have through American Home Shield. That would cost American Home Shield the $3,000 that they would have covered. I would have also been out of pocket almost four grand.

The guy who came out today wasn’t actually the guy who was fixing it. But he did say it would take about a week. Worst case scenario, after dealing with them, I’ll be about two weeks without air conditioning. It wasn’t the best experience. But it was Greenway and it might just be the one guy who works there. I don’t have a problem with American Home Shield and I’d refer people to them. I’ve been with them for the past nine years and I’ve always called and gotten American Home Shield.

Please reference Better Business Bureau Complaint #**. Anyway, I've been an AHS customer for over 5 years, and have been generally happy with the service, until recently, a couple issues had arose that I could not get satisfaction from AHS, or the companies of the dishwasher and sump pump that were replaced in my home.

First, we had a replacement dishwasher installed in our kitchen. A few days after installation, water was leaking all over the kitchen floor. Because this was a new installation, we were to call GE under the 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Upon looking at the unit, the service person told me that it was installed improperly, and was not covered under warranty. He suggested I contact AHS to get it fixed. AHS continued to refer me to GE in a never ending cycle of eternal telephone holds, and non-service. Also, I'll add that the newly installed dishwasher was a discontinued model.

Around the same time, we had a sump pump fail a year after being replaced through AHS, and had to have the company come out to replace/fix it. The basement was filled with over 4" of water. The sump pump that was originally replaced lasted 20+ years. The mechanic explained that what they get from AHS in order to deal with breakdowns doesn't pay for the kind of sump pump we needed... so I spent $900 on my own to have it replaced with a comparable pump to our original.

With these two issues, I couldn't get anyone to respond, so I went to the BBB. Through a lengthy back and forth, Ms Marcy ** of the AHS branch in Virginia, she authorized a $900 check sent to reimburse us of our sump pump purchase. She offered to have someone come out and look at the dishwasher, and I decided I would take care of it on my own. So I was happy with what Ms ** did for me.

Thinking the issue was solved, yesterday I received a letter from AHS stating that they regret to inform me that my contract would not be able to be renewed! Now this isn't in response to my complaint, is it? Because in over 5 years, I've paid over $5600 in premiums, not to mention the service call fees, and only had 2 issues warranting a complaint. But because of this, I've been terminated?! Really?! So will my Terminix account be next?! Unbelievable. Cowardly, really. Buyer beware... we'll see if this gets put up on the website.

The AC unit off the first floor wasn't cooling and I made a claim for it over the phone. That part was fine since I've used American Home Shield a number of times before. However, it took multiple calls and contractors to get my problem resolved. When the first company called me to set up a time, they wouldn't give a window. They claimed that the kind of call they got from American Home Shield was a rush. They wanted to give me an all-day-long appointment and I told them that wasn't gonna work for me. The lady got very defensive and her tone of voice wasn't pleasant at all. Subsequently, American Home Shield said that that was not the way it was supposed to be, so they ended up setting me up with a second company. The second company gave me a four-hour window and they showed up within that time. They were very professional and they fixed the problem.

American Home Shield's prices are competitive and they have a wealth of contractors that they use. However, every time that it's time to renew, my premium goes up with no warning to me. They should let the consumer know ahead of time that it's going to be the case so that if I choose to go somewhere else, I could do that. Overall I've been a customer for seven years and I would definitely recommend them, which I have to a number of people over the years.

One gentleman that I spoke with told me I needed to pay another trade call fee for the plumber to come out even though the drip was underneath the AC.

The gentleman from Habit was awesome. He was wonderful, and then the second after the plumber came out and fixed the pipe, the AC people came back out and the guy did the exact same thing that he did the first time that he came out - blew out the pipe again and it did absolutely nothing. He told me, "I don't know why they keep sending me back out here. I'm just a service guy. I don’t fix these things." It was a complete waste of time. We still have a drip. AHS said we had to replace the whole compressor. The AC works fine. It's just a drip down the side of the house, leaving a little rust thing. It was going to be two grand out of pocket because they only cover the compressor and I felt that American Home Shield was a huge rip-off. I'm very dissatisfied with them. We won't renew as soon as the contract runs out.

We had some water leaking from our air conditioning unit. I submitted a claim to AHS online and they called me and asked a question, but then it was referred straight to the provider locally. The technician came out and checked it out for us and found that there was an insulation backing up one of the ducts which was causing the overflow. He made sure everything was okay. He was quick, efficient, answered questions and left the place cleaner than it was when he started. It was really good overall. I would definitely recommend AHS, especially for a house like ours. It's gonna be 13 years in December so we’re starting to see some of those warrantied things that would need to be replaced or worked on and AHS would definitely help at offsetting those costs.

The most recent claim we had with American Home Shield was for garage door openers, one for a rental property and one for my primary. I filed it over the computer and their site was pretty user-friendly. The problem that I had with the contractor is after they came out, they let us know that it was not a covered service because it was our spring that broke. Unfortunately, it was not a very good discount as they advertised. It doesn’t discount for non-covered services with their providers and I was very overpriced for what I ended up paying for.

They replaced the spring on my primary residence and on the rental property, the same provider was sent out and they didn’t check coverage before providing service. But luckily, they ate the cost because they didn’t do that. Then, they did some additional repairs that they shouldn’t have without authorizing service. So, I got some grief from the company who was handling the repair, but they didn’t communicate well with American Home Shield. Also, I had a microwave replaced in the rental unit and there’s a feature that was at the time above a convection feature. We had some kind of radiant heat option in this microwave that was $1,000 and so getting a comparable unit replaced took me about three months because they were having problems with that. And I had to stay on hold for ungodly numbers of hours just to get this resolved.

Another was that I had one refrigerator at a residence that was better than the current refrigerator I have, so I swapped them out. One repair I did myself because it was cheaper to do myself than to take the unit out of service and replace it. It ended up being better to replace one with another because it was just an ice maker that needed a small part. And then, they tried telling me that that unit was no longer warranty-able, but they were charging me for the warranty on it. We resolved that after about a five-hour conversation on the phone and hold time which I’m not too happy with. If it’s a simple service, it’s okay but if there is a problem, it’s atrocious. Also, if you have something below or above the standard unit, it’s a little bit harder. But if you fight them or you argue for it, as long as you’re being honest, you’ll get what you have replaced for comparable equipment.

I submitted it that evening and I understood that the tech couldn't report until the next day. They called and made arrangements first thing that morning. We were able to get an appointment within the next 24 hours and the contractor was timely in coming out.

The tech was very professional, asked about the problem to ensure that he has a clear understanding and then went to the attic to inspect the problem and was able to determine what it was within five to 10 minutes of assessing. And then, he told me what the next steps were gonna be. I have used AHS three to four times and I've been pleased with them each time. I've been pleased with American Home Shield's customer service and with the vendors that they have identified to come out to the home.

My experience with American Home Shield has gone very smooth. I’ve had three items of need and I simply filed online. I was then contacted within 24 or 48 hours and AHS assigned someone to take care of the task, and I paid the task fee. The most recent claim was an air conditioning element that went out and it was resolved yesterday. It has taken a while because it was more complicated than originally construed. I had a telephone call from one AHS' personnel a week ago confirming what would be covered on the air conditioner repair, what wouldn’t be covered, and what my financial obligation would be. Getting the parts in took a little longer than we anticipated and it could be relative to the weather in other parts of the US . We had two days out of air conditioning.

The air conditioning team that was assigned to handle the task resolved the problem. Once their parts came in, they came out and they started the repair and were finished in about three hours. The financial obligation was specific and detailed and it was exactly what was prescribed by the individual call from American Home Shield a week ago. I told my wife that I anticipated it would be higher because there will be complications, but there was none. It was very matter-of-fact and well done. I specifically liked that air conditioning group and I would like to use them specifically because they knew what they were doing and they were very clear. We had an initial problem where the air conditioning went out and it was because of the thermostat. It failed for some reason and was not operating, but they resolved that.

It wasn’t a real overdone thing, but it turned out that once the system started operating from there, and it may have been the case even when the evaporator coil is cold or frozen over which could be true, there was a leak which called a replacement of some other equipment. That leak could not be resolved where you couldn’t just patch it or anything else, and that’s what took the week to have it repaired. However, it was terrific and delightful. The team that AHS sent was really not intrusive at all. They came out and went right to work and resolved the problem, so I was impressed. The tech came back with the repair yesterday and he led the team of four guys. In no time at all, the system was re-invigorated and it has been working properly since then. We are very pleased.

Having sold a home about five months ago and selling another home that I owned in another location where I had lived before, we decided to get a home warranty on it and we got American Home Shield. The people who had the house I’m living in now, which we bought from them a year and a half ago, purchased a home warranty for the house for us before we purchased the house. That was a plus. I told my daughter that she has been in her house for about five years and she needs to have a contractor for the little things like garbage disposals.

In our case, it was a disposal that jammed once and we had a problem on the faucet and it started spewing them. It was a very modern type faucet but apparently, the line developed a leak and it was throwing water everywhere inside the cabinet. We resolved that with AHS and the techs came out. I told my daughter that that we need to get an American Home Shield contractor in her house, too. It made perfect sense and it gives peace of mind.

I don’t mind paying for the service at all and I don’t mind paying the monthly fee. If we have a problem, we pay the task fee. What I like too is the convenience of being able to do it online. Even with the air conditioning, it was the same way. It was initiated online, continued, and they checked with us. Our experience with AHS has been perfect and we are very comfortable with the price and with how everything worked. What I really liked was that when we had a financial obligation beyond the task fee, the organization was able to tell me, “Here’s what we’re covering. Here’s what your obligation is, just so you’re ready." I was delighted the rep told me that and we knew what to anticipate.

My calls have been very professionally-handled. I’ve heard people say that they have problems. But I’ve been in my home for almost 20 years and I’ve had them for 20 years, and I’ve never had any issues.

I did have an issue with one technician though. He came out for my washing machine but he didn't stay for even two minutes. He took the copayment and told me that he had to order a part. But I never heard from him again for a week and I was leaving to go on a vacation. I called American Home Shield and they sent the contractor out. The technician came out again and said he had to order a part. But I never got any results. Still, that was the only unprofessional tech that I had. I told American Home Shield I didn’t want him back in my home anymore because I felt he had no intention of fixing my washing machine. On the other hand, the second technician they sent out saw that the washing machine needed to be replaced. So I got a new washing machine.

Aside from my washing machine, American Home Shield has also replaced my AC. American Home Shield is a life-saver because I’m disabled and I’m retired. I also live alone and I don't have anybody to do repairs. It’s like a stress-reliever to have American Home Shield at my fingertips, a call away, and I pay for the relief. I've told my friends they need it if they’re single and they don’t have a man in the house.

AHS assigned a local company, AAA All Brands Appliances LLC to the repair. The company was unprofessional and took weeks of no show and no work resolution to provide a diagnosis.

A part needed to be ordered and it wasn't until the mid-end of July that AHS reported that the part was still not available, all this while enduring indoor temperature of 85 degrees with over 85% humidity. To remedy the problem AHS agreed to repay me partial reimbursement totaling $100.00 for the purchase of a portable A/C unit, until the repair could be accomplished. (Could not cash the check until final resolution, as the memo listed "in lieu of repair".)

During the two month ordeal, I spent hours on hold on the phone with multiple operators, never allowed to speak with a manager (after request) and opted for a miserable cash out option of $661.00 for a repair that cost me $1,900.00 out of pocket and almost three months of horrid summer temperatures without A/C. I WILL NOT be renewing the contract with AHS.

The tech looked at the unit and said easy fix, within 2 hr the unit was not cooling again. Called the company back at 4:45 pm and they were already closed. I attempted to reach AHS and held again for over 30 min again. I was told they will get the AC company back out, but another service charge would apply, which is crazy since they did not fix the issue. The AC company called the next morning, Thursday but could not come out till Friday.

On Friday morning the tech came out and said, "Your meter device is not working. Will order part and try to be back Monday or Tuesday." The tech indicated that the unit may keep cool, but will run constantly, and if it runs 24/7 my electric bill will be extremely high. So here I sit on a Saturday in Florida 95 outside and 85 in my house with the AC conditioning running. The tech did not even call to see if he could get a part right away and gave no definite answer as to when he will return. This AC company is not a small shop. They are a big company in the area, hard to believe he could not obtain the part that day or the next day. Their advertisement indicates they work 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. Just had a terrible experience with American Home Shield trying to get a claim processed on an emergency basis for A/C being out in Tucson, AZ with a high of 105 today. They told us it would be 24-48 hrs. We explained the issue of the heat over the next 2 days and the health and safety concerns of those living there and asked to expedite the request or allow us to get another company. Instead, they argued “our forecast says it’s only going to be 102 today.” And asked what our health issues are? When I said if they are concerned over a 3 degree difference, I can send them a screenshot of the forecast we’re looking at but that that is most certainly not the point.

All we’re asking is if given the extenuating circumstances of the heat, if they can help offer solutions to try to expedite a contractor getting out here. After going back and forth challenging me on the weather and our HEALTH, they simply said “no we can’t expedite this.” Completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and totally useless policy. We have RARELY needed to use this in the 6-7 years we’ve had this policy and the time we do and we need it most, they respond this way. What is most Americans' biggest investment? Their homes. So, when we (homeowners) purchase a product like a home warranty we look for protection of our investment. My home warranty was included when I purchased my home. The home is new to me, but overall it is 14 years old. We (homeowners) are looking for protection with the home warranty, there is trust involved here, between us (the homeowner) and AHS.

This being said, my water heater is dying. I placed the request to have my water heater checked on AHS.com. Within minutes I received a text telling me that a plumber had been assigned and they would contact me shortly. This was 9 PM on a Thursday. At 9 AM on Friday I had not heard from the plumber so I started making calls. After two calls I spoke to the assigned plumber, their next appointment was on Tuesday... but my water heater might be dead on Friday... no hot water Friday to Tuesday, five days?

Also, the water heater is leaking and I can see it on the drywall, mold, water damage? The plumber called AHS to see if an emergency plumber could come out on Friday. Great! Another plumber came and within five minutes of arriving declared that my water heater is indeed dying, it is leaking out the bottom. I will have to wait through the weekend but, sometime in the coming week my water heater will get replaced? Maybe?

Here is the problem. This is the biggest investment of my life... my home. Yet when my home is having a "heart attack" AHS is telling me to relax, "we'll get to you in a week or two, maybe." Communication is not the best with the home warranty. I called AHS three hours after my appointment with the plumber was completed. I told the representative the history. She then told me that the plumber has "24 BUSINESS hours" to input the information that my water heater is dead. How hard is it to enter that information? "Water heater leaking all over the place."

Again you're having a heart attack and the doctor tells you that they have "24 BUSINESS hours" to enter the information in the computer and that is just the admin, the actual treatment of the heart attack follows sometime later, no time or date set. A bit frustrating. And as other reviewers have noted, we have jobs not like we are sitting around just waiting for the plumber to arrive. As of tonight, my water heater is dying. The plumber acknowledged this, but AHS is saying the information has not been input into the system. There currently is no timeline to replace the water heater. Yet, this is a homeowner emergency.

So, AHS, this is your notification. I have the money to pay for a plumber to install a water heater. If I lose hot water at my home, I am going to pay to have a hot water heater installed. I will then promptly cancel my policy with your company, I am tired of paying $75 for a service call to get slow service. I am not going to be held hostage to your "24 - BUSINESS - hour" policy. When I call a plumber, I expect to be treated like a valued customer. I expect prompt service for my prompt payment ($75, plus the upfront payment for the home warranty). Please prove me wrong. I will gladly update this review when I am taking hot showers and there isn't water leaking from my water heater.

We purchased a house that has the original washer and dryer (from early 1990s). Over the past 3 years the washer has had at least 2 breakdowns a year. Each breakdown has resulted in several weeks of having to hand wash our clothes while AHS brings in a contractor who then comes and has to wait for parts and then finally returns to actually fix the problem. For a family with young kids, not having a working washer that frequently (with both parents working) has been extremely inconveniencing. Plus it’s particularly tough on one's job to keep taking days off work to wait for “4 to 6 hour” windows for a technician and then repeat all over again.

I am disappointed that AHS has constantly refused to replace the washer. It would make more financial sense if they add the cost of the multiple repairs. On our end, having AHS has not made financial sense. When we calculated having to pay $75 copay for each repair, the cost of AHS subscription and cost of the multiple times away from work we realized we could have used our money to get a new washer and saved ourselves the consistent inconvenience and lost wages from work. I would not recommend them.\

Updated on 09/24/2018: Continuation and update from my review on AMERICAN HOME SHIELD dated September 15, 2018. After writing the review above, I received a generic response from AHS stating they would contact me to resolve my concerns. I provided them with my contact information. After not hearing back from them for about 4 days, and entering the 3rd week of a broken washer, I contacted their customer service to follow up. After being put on hold for an hour I was first told that the technician from UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR had called AHS that morning to order the parts needed (almost a week after showing up for service). Then the story changed to the fact that the UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR technician said the damage was due to overloading and that AMERICAN HOME SHIELD would not be covering repairs because it was not due to normal wear and tear.

There are several inconsistencies with this: 1. The UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR invoice shows there was an issue with the transmission and I was informed the part would be ordered. 2. UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR also identified that previous repairs (by technicians sent by AMERICAN HOME SHIELD) had inappropriately bypassed the lid switch and that was a safety hazard. 3. The washer was installed in the 1990s, the fact that it has lasted this long is a testament to appropriate use and handling.

I received a response from AMERICAN HOME SHIELD a week after my review. They asked for my information to contact me, which I provided. I received an email days later asking how I prefer to correspond and requested to be contacted by email. Since their email asking for my preferred mode of correspondence, I have not heard back from AHS regarding my concerns.

In the meantime, I caution consumers to beware of AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. They claim to send only the best-qualified technicians to your home; this is not true. UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR has 2/5 stars on local reviews from 38 responses. Most complaints were from AHS customers. AMERICAN HOME SHIELD has sent me information to contact a 2nd vendor to repair my washer. The 2nd vendor is MS APPLIANCE, who have even worse reviews on their service. They have 1.5/5 stars from 37 reviews and have a GRADE F with the Better Business Bureau.

I have a mainline backup in my home. It's causing my basement toilet to back up into my basement shower. I submitted a request to AMERICAN HOME SHIELD specifically for a STOPPAGE. The technician shows up to my home & within 10 minutes he tells me that the main line needs to be snaked out. He then tells me he has no snake on his band to perform the service & that he has to get authorization to do it. This was at 11:30 AM on Friday September 14th. It is now 9:30 PM, I've had the $100 deductible taken out of my account, when I go online to see the status of my request, it says CLOSED.

I call AHS for an explanation, they tell me that I have to wait until they get in touch with the contractor, who (I might add) I spoke to his office earlier today & they told me that they were waiting for the tech to submit his findings. Meanwhile, I'm currently awaiting in a plumber to snake the main line in my home because no cannot use ANY of the sinks or toilets without flooding out my basement. I'm out of my $100 deductible & I still have not heard from AHS or the contractor. I will be cancelling my service contract effective immediately & I will see AHS in a court of law if they attempt to come after me for breach of contract. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!

On hold for 30 min, they assigned a plumber who later called and said he cannot come out for 3 days. Called AHS again, on hold 30 min, was told if they could not find a plumber by end of the day to call back. I called back. Was hung up on twice. Called again, on hold 45 min. Gave up. Canceled Call. They are great at taking my money, but when it comes time to get the service I pay for, they treated me like crap. They did not hold up their end of our contract so I will be speaking to an attorney. Here I sit with no water still. Please do not waste your money on this company. I am so disappointed!

An AC technician came out when our AC unit was down, but he couldn’t make the repair. The contractors that American Home Shield send out are normally very good. But this guy told us that he never seen a thermostat like ours. We have an older system and thermostat, and he had to call in another guy. He told my wife that they didn't know how to replace our thermostat and that we may have to rewire the whole thing which would cost us thousands of dollars. It was ridiculous.

American Home Shield had to send another company out a couple of days later. The second contractor told us that it was a simple job with replacing a thermostat, but we had to wait for a couple of days for the repair to get fixed. It only took him 45 minutes to finish the whole job. We paid online a $75 service charge and I didn’t know my wife had done that. I also paid the tech who came up the second time. But I kept getting emails from American Home Shield saying that my contract was gonna be suspended for not paying the service, which I had done twice already. At that point, I gave up.

I kept asking them to make sure my service doesn’t get interrupted and I had called at least three times because I kept getting these emails saying that I had an outstanding balance of $75. So, that was very frustrating. Also, they put me on hold a lot of times. I just wanted some kind of confirmation from whoever I was speaking to. I told them that they could send me an email stating that I have paid my bill and to disregard the emails that were coming. But I never got that. I'm usually very happy with American Home Shield but the last experience we had was a little difficult.

When I had a plumbing issue, Hers & His Plumbing Florida came out for it. They’re not responsive to phone calls. The man who was the manager told me that I needed a valve for the bathroom plumbing issue so I called and left a message but they never called back. It seems that I lost a lot of time. American Home Shield wanted to send in the plumber to follow up, but I said that they can’t come in if they don’t have the valve. It delayed the process of getting the part ordered. Even American Home Shield called Hers & His and they were not satisfied with the result. The woman assigned to me in American Home Shield got me a different plumber on a Friday to finish up the project.

They had RR Plumbing come in here on Monday I asked the contractor why was he coming if he didn’t have the part. I sent him a picture and within an hour, he sent back what I needed to order. I got on the line and ordered so then I had the part. He was the only helpful person and I couldn’t have been more pleased. He was on time, professional and he knew what he was doing. I told him that it has been going on for an entire month and I was dealing with another company. He asked me if it was Hers & His and said that they’ve had a lot of calls where they’ve had to go in after them and clean up some messes.

I was not pleased with Hers & His, but R&R Company was wonderful. We were playing telephone tag for days with Hers & His whereas with RR a person answers when I called their number and we got the thing straightened right away. Everything was ultimately resolved. Other than that, when my dishwasher went, American Home Shield sent AZ. They were a new company but their guy was really good. He explained to me what the problem was and told me that the part was no longer available. He noticed that I got a new stove and he said that he could repair those. He went out of his way and said that he wanted to help so that I wouldn't have service issues. He educated me and I appreciated it. My experience with American Home Shield was good and I would definitely recommend them.

We had an issue with timing and dates and they did everything to push it forward, and get us back up when we needed it. When the contractors came, they checked everything and knew exactly what the issue was. They replaced the fuse and they were gone in less than five minutes. Renewing with AHS was simple as well. The guy that works for the contractor came on Saturday. I gave him the part and he fixed it.

He had been here one time and he was approachable, helpful, and pleasant. He asked me if there was anything else I want him to look at while he was here. I saw some water underneath the kitchen sink so I was worried that maybe there was a leak and I asked him about that. He was able to troubleshoot the problem and showed me where the water was coming in. It looked like the grouting between that and the counter was worn and I needed to caulk it. He took care of that, fixed it and it was fine. He was excellent, professional, and very capable. I was impressed with him.

The AHS website is easy to navigate and when I submit a claim, it’s online. We just characterize the problem, write a couple of short sentences to what it is and the supplier is contacted. They contact me, come out within a day and I’m perfectly happy. Usually the suppliers show up, identify themselves and ask me one little clarification about what the issue is and then they tell me where we'll start and off we go. The quality of work has always been good and I’ll never be without a warranty.

The filters on our AC were never getting dirty and I thought that was quite unusual and that dust must be going somewhere. We had the unit checked and the technician came in, checked everything out, and saw nothing wrong. He said part of the reason was we don’t have any carpets in the house and there’s nothing to generate that kind of dust. We’ve had other warranties in the past but over the last 15 years, American Home Shield is the one we had the most and they're the best one we’ve had.

I don't mind paying 75 bucks to AHS, but their payment options are either pay it right after submitting the claim or they will take it out of the account after the contractor was done. I personally don’t like anybody going in my account to take my money out. I would rather write a check or pay with my credit card on my own. So I don’t like that AHS only gives those two options and both entail them going into my account and taking money out.

Months ago, my refrigerator needed to be repaired and it was not a very good experience. The initial process was fine though. I called AHS, spoke to someone and put in a request. It was easy. Then the technician came out. He ordered a part, tried to fix it and it didn’t work. He came out again, ordered parts and didn’t fix it. Then he came out again and ordered the parts.

It took about four weeks to get the refrigerator repaired. And during that time, I reached out to AHS requesting for some compensation for my food loss. I was told that my policy didn’t cover food loss, but someone offered to give me $100 for reimbursement. When I called back, I didn’t speak to the person that offered that and I was denied the reimbursement. Under those circumstances, I should have been offered some kind of reimbursement. When I contacted AHS to renew my policy, I informed them of that but I never got a reimbursement. It’s worth getting such policy through AHS but be aware that if your policy doesn’t cover food reimbursement, then you would want to plan for that.

He tried to send the stuff in several times. Every time I called, he would say, he had sent it in and that he would send it in again. However, AHS said I had to submit another request.

It took two more months for them to come back out and get my second unit taken care of. I had to call and say that nobody was looking at the second unit. They said I should not have submitted it online. I was supposed to have called and told them about it which I didn't know. Moreover, I was charged for the service fee for both claims. I ended up paying because it was hot and I needed my air conditioner fixed. I shouldn’t have to pay again. They need to fix their website. For instance, one of the claims I’ve had was for a toilet. When I clicked on the toilet, it asked how many toilets I needed to be repaired. Why can’t there be the same option for the air conditioner? I’ve been with American Home Shield for years because I have old appliances. It's easy to file claims on the phone and I love it. The only problem is that I wait a long time on the phone to reach someone but other than that, once I put the claim in, the appliance person is very good about calling right away and setting an appointment. I also like the way everybody connected with American Home Shield calls first before they arrive. It has worked really well for me for years.

About four years ago, AHS replaced a washer and then about three months after that, the dryer went out. They had come many times on that washer and about twice on the dryer. At that time when they could still find the part for the washer, the contractor didn't seem to be well and was irritable with me. But, it got done and he didn't do anything wrong, so I didn’t report it. And that has never happened since then or before. Then, when the units got so old and AHS couldn’t locate the parts anymore, AHS replaced both of them.

Recently, I had an old oven that would not work and I couldn't find the part. AHS sent a contractor a day after Labor Day, which was Tuesday. The contractor sent me a follow-up text saying that American Home Shield said they couldn't find the part for him and that they needed to replace my oven. And if I don’t receive a call by Monday, he said to call and start the process myself. I’m waiting on a call back from them now. But they have hundreds of people calling, so it doesn’t upset me. Also, I know what number to call for the appliance replacement department but I decided to just leave my name and number and let them call me back. I’m a widow and every time an appliance dies, I’m just without, so I really appreciate the American Home Shield's service. I don’t know what I would have been without them.

Then, we ran it again a few days later and filled up the dishwasher. We could see the water coming out from under the dishwasher and going across the carpet. So I called the plumber that I knew in the area and asked if he wanted to look under the dishwasher cause it had a leak. When he did, he opened the bottom and turned the dishwasher on. He then said it has two leaks by the motor.

So I called American Home Shield and the guy from Bill’s came out and looked under the dishwasher and said what the other plumber had already told me. He also added that they will order the parts and they will let us know since it would take them 10 business days to get what was needed. It had been checked out prior to our purchase of the home, and I asked them to check it out with two different sources, which they did. American Home Shield had already provided work on the units under the former owner so we wanted to double-check ‘cause the last thing we wanted to do was have the months of June, July, and August without air conditioning.

We had a check and moved in, then a week after we moved in, it wasn’t holding temperature. We called AHS the first time and a great rep from Cabot Mechanical LLC came out. He identified the problem right away and replaced the relay. It was an issue where it was not kicking in the compressor so he replaced that relay. He also charged it with some freon and it has worked adequately but not to the level that it should have.

When our second floor unit was experiencing the same issues, it was serviced as well. It was checked for some Freon and did some cleaning on it because both units had been well-taken care of over the course of their lives. Right now, both units are functioning. They take the temperature down and hold it, so they did a good job. When I had a microwave and oven issue as well after we moved in and the microwave control panel was not functioning properly, a guy named Ben came out and knew exactly what it was, ordered the part, got it in, came and fixed it. He was great.

I’ve had a billing issue with AHS that went on for a while. Eventually, we got that rectified. However, what is going on now is that I paid the company a copay but they keep sending me a notice that I still owe them $75. I spoke to a lot of different people and people read back the notes and they made promises. For instance, with the plumbing company, I called their rep and told her that I paid. The rep said they had the receipt. They had called immediately to American Home Shield twice and told them. However, a month later, it’s still on my record that I owe them $75.

When AHS was computing the bill, they said they had sent me a check. But then, I didn’t remember if they sent me a check and I asked them to give me a copy of it to show that they refunded me the money. It has been a month for that to happen. My bills have run behind for nine months with them this time. My bank normally pays the bill and sends them a check, and it’s there ahead of time every time. Every year my warranty comes for renewal and they want my bank account information so they can debit my account. However, I said no because a couple of years ago I gave it to them and they ended up trying to debit six months out of my check and wiped out my account.

I’ve had AHS for years and the billing problem has happened three times. Also, they have come up with this new program that you pay before the person comes out. I told them I don’t wanna do that until someone comes out and tells me what’s going on so they implemented now that once the person comes out and diagnoses and does the service, they will go ahead and charge your credit card after. They have perfected that and gotten that better.

Everybody from AHS is nice and they’re accommodating. The contractors they have sent out were excellent. They tried to send a different contractor out for my AC claim and I immediately called them back and I said, “I don’t want that one. I want the one that you’ve always sent out here because that person knows my unit.” They switched my contractor without a problem. I've recommended AHS to two of my coworkers and one is very happy with it while the other one has an issue with a contractor. I’ve also recommended them to other people outside of my job and they love them.

I called AHS to have my AC services as it wasn't cooling. The AC company responded quickly and accurately diagnosed the problem was a faulty TXV valve which causes the coils to freeze up. To fix the problem the AC company wanted to charge me for 5 pounds of Freon at a cost of $375. Freon isn't a covered service. The problem is the AC didn't need any Freon and you don't have to remove the Freon to replace the valve. It can be pumped down to the compressor why the valve is replaced. AHS wouldn't send another vendor to do the job correctly. They offered me a buyout a fraction of the cost of the service. The buyout amount didn't even cover the cost of the part.

After spending hours on hold when you get the support agent they just say that they are running behind and have not been able to do a part search. To add, if you have an expensive brand of appliance they will offer you a cheap brand replacement than repair your appliance. BE CAREFUL BEFORE SIGNING UP. THEY WILL KEEP REFERRING TO THE SMALL PRINT ON THEIR CONTRACT - BUYER BEWARE!

I have tried for over 2 weeks to schedule service for appliances in need of repair. I have paid my policy monthly. Never missed or late on a payment and when I go to use the service I have paid for it is almost impossible to get help. I have tried 3 times to set up service for my home and they keep routing me to the same service provider. That service provider has never once shown up or called to set the appointment. I reach out to American Home Shield and after being on hold for 48 minutes they tell me they have no one to service my location and a dispatcher will call me the next day. They never do. Mind you I live 20 minutes outside of Washington D.C so there are plenty of service providers around. Still broke and disappointed in the customer service. Do not use them for your home warranty. I will move my business.

Reported it, they sent a fellow, it was repaired, supposedly. Soon after, they sent me notice that when my contract ends. It would not be renewed. No reason, nothing. Their billing is messed up also. Kept sending me a bill for a"service fee" paid at the time of service! Today, same new fridge has another leak with icemaker! Poor service even customer service, esp AC guys that gouge Freon but they don't give a damn. I never refer these people!

When he looked at the washer he said, "This is gonna be an expensive repair." He knows his business and I like that. When they gave their report, I got an email saying that there were so much to be fixed and they offered to buy me a new one. I haven't received my new washer yet because I was going on vacation the day they showed me what they would get for me and I got sick when I came back. They offered me a GE washer and I'd really like to get a Whirlpool. So, I sent an email today asking if they would allow me to buy a Whirlpool and I am waiting for a response to that. So far, I'm extremely pleased with AHS and I've already recommended them to other people. I told them that it's worth the money and they have good people.

We had the upstairs shower that uses the same hot water heater as the actual shower. The water with the upstairs shower was fine as far as hot and cold. We could feel the hot water coming out of the hot water heater. But when it comes to the actual shower, we had no hot water at all. It's a Kohler mixing valve there that's a one-lever deal that we would pull up and as we pull it up, it would go from cold to hot. But it didn't make any difference where we put it. It was cold water. I called American Home Shield and the rep told me when they thought Patriot Plumbing, the contractor, would be here and gave me their number. I called Patriot and the lady that answered the phone was very good.

I told her what my situation was and she had somebody here the following day. The guy from Patriot came over here and he examined it. He did everything he could and checked the heat and where it went and where there was no hot water. He determined that the controller of this Kohler water meter was malfunctioning. He has a part on order for that and when he gets it, he's supposed to bring it over here and put it in. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it worked.

But we have an issue that still isn't resolved. I had an oven door that was catching. When we closed the door, it wouldn't go up and and it was jamming on something in the hinge part. The guy came out here and he fixed it. He had ordered parts for the door and he put a new frame in there. But then when he went to close the door, the door wouldn't close all the way. So then, he sort of jammed it and hit it really hard. He got it to work for two weeks and then the thing did what it would normally do. It creeps back away from giving a good seal to the oven. So, we got heat escaping when we bake or something out of the oven and if my wife has to bake anything, she just uses the oven down below.

Having the warranty is very helpful but the big problem I have with AHS is with the replacement. When I built this house, I put quality products in here and I expected to get something in that same line but AHS's replacement parts or what they try to put were something quite a bit lower. Then, they wanted me to try to pay the difference and I got into some debates. We worked through that but it took a bit of negotiating. They would tell me it was hard to get and that it cost so much more. They gave me fits over the stainless steel I wanted on my microwave and I said I didn't want an old plastic black thing over the top. They hemmed and hawed and finally, they came along to it.

The other thing that bothers me is when I picked my selection of options I would like to include on the insurance. Like a lot of people, I have the automatic garage doors but when I really got into the fine print, they're opting out of the unit itself as far as the tracks or the chain drive. It doesn't make much difference to the homeowner what breaks. If it's part of the garage door and the door won't go up and down, it's part of the garage door. However, American Home Shield has improved for my relationship and they do incredible job. In the last year, the service has been much better.

I live in Williamsburg which is halfway between Norfolk and Virginia and the way their computer is setup to select service people, most of the service people are down towards Norfolk. The problem is that there's a big body of water that separates Norfolk and Chesapeake and most of these guys had to drive about anywhere from 50 to 75 miles to get here, one way. But there are other towns that are closer and at times, once AHS has given me somebody that's really good in that particular skill, then I would remember them and ask AHS to please assign that person to me. They're good about that and they have worked with me. If you know the repair person in terms of previous work and ask for them, they would get it for you.

AHS cashed out my Dryer and Refrigerator and refunded me all of the service fees that had paid out since June.

    Original Review: Sept. 14, 2018

I haven't had a very good summer with my appliances. The dryer broke first, then the air conditioner and now, my refrigerator. The claims process with American Home Shield is easy when you go on the automated system or online. I went on the automated system on the phone to submit the claim for my air conditioner. The compressor went out on Thursday and the air conditioner wasn't repaired until Tuesday. The contractor's service was perfect. But I did all the work for American Home Shield. The compressor was approved but it was gonna take 48 hours for their parts department to get to the contractor to tell them that they could go ahead and pick it up. But staying on the phone and yelling at everybody, I got that done within two hours. I was the one who got on the phone and hustled it.

I had to stay on the phone with American Home Shield an hour and a half at a time. And that was just to get a person on the phone. The contractor doesn't have time for that. They can't have the parts department put on hold for an hour and a half. Finally, I got through to somebody else in a different department and he was the most helpful. But I still had to email the CEO to get an executive customer service person involved. He was the one who put my repair on the top of the list. If I hadn't done all that, it would have been at least three more days because the parts department would tell you that they were behind.

But the executive customer service people are worthless too right now. My dryer has been broken since August 1st and I've been leaving the executive customer service person Annette voicemails but she has never called me back. She does not reply to my emails either. So I had to get somebody else on the phone. Barbie answered her line today and she actually called me back with an answer about the part being backordered again until the 28th of September. They had to order the part directly from the manufacturer and it was supposed to be in today. Now, American Home Shield will give me a cash-out option. But I want a replacement option. But because the dryer is repairable, they won't give me the replacement option. The only way I'll get my cash-out option is if I go buy a new dryer. They're gonna give me $628 but to replace the dryer I have is $1200.

Annette is the person who should be handling this though. Now I'm mad and she's not doing it either. What do I do? I've got nowhere to go. My dryer is still broken and they don't care. They just take the option that it's backordered and they don't move forward. I don't get why they haven't done more for me. I've been paying American Home Shield for 15 years. They should do more work for me than that.

Then when I got home yesterday, my refrigerator broke. It's completely out and I've lost everything in it. Now I'm thinking, "Am I gonna have to wait for a month for a refrigerator?" I'm so dissatisfied that when I get it all repaired, I'm cancelling the warranty. But I don't really want to cancel because I've had such good luck with American Home Shield for 15 years straight, until this year. It's been a total spiral down. I even referred a lot of people to American Home Shield. My niece also had such a hard time in Carolina this summer that they cancelled. I thought maybe it was just because they didn't have a lot of options with contractors but now I understand why she was having problems. I believe in a home warranty 100%. American Home Shield had always stood behind me but not anymore.

I don't know if they've downsized and they don't have enough employees. If I call right now, I would have to sit on hold just to get a person on the phone. I don't care if it's their peak season. They should hire more people during that time. I should not sit on hold for an hour and a half just so I can talk to a person. It's the same even for other departments. A guy called me back and said that my complaint was valid. He sat on the phone for the same amount of time and he works there.

Updated on 10/18/2018: Since then we decided to replace all of our appliances, so I emailed AHS to cancel my policy. FYI they can only cancel on effective the day you call or email and they will not refund your prorated premium you have already paid for the current month. AHS does not pro-rate months for refunds on premiums and you were paying monthly. AHS also does not cancel contracts for a future date.

American Home Shield was the best one I found and they have always been good to me. They take care of everything, they don’t lie, they don’t wait and then come out and tell you that they’ll only give you such money, and you can go take care of it yourself, and you end up spending all of the money for the part. I have used someone else before I got AHS and that one never paid for anything. I ended up paying for them to come out and then they gave me a little bit of money on. They didn't even pay half. I wouldn't trade AHS.

When I had a water leak with the refrigerator, I submitted a claim online and AHS contacted me right away. Although it was about a week before Sears could get out here, the reps at AHS were nice and pleasant. Also, the contractor was super nice. I asked the tech a couple of questions that was something different than what he came out for, but he didn't mind answering it and he was going all the way to show me. Since the repair, the refrigerator has been super good.

He came a couple of days later with some new parts and he said we'll try something different. He ordered some new parts, came out, and that wasn’t it too.

On the third try, he said they made a determination that they were going replace my washing machine. We were happy and we like the replacement. Having a warranty is very valuable. Within that day, I got a call from the technician and initially, he said he was really tied up but that he’d try to get here. He did and he was on time. He looked at the AC, then he came back the next day. He came earlier than he said he was going to, looked to see what the problem was and he told me that he had to finish another job. Then he came back. I had two air conditioner heat pumps in my home and he added more Freon to both of those. There was a broken wire in the AC too and he repaired that wire and checked the pressure. Since he added the Freon, the AC has been great.

The contractor billed me after the service was done though. Normally, I’d never had to pay anything extra. The $75 fee was the only amount I paid but this time, I had to pay $90 extra for the Freon. Also, the technician said he was gonna come back as he had some other cap he had to get but he has never done that. I’ve always had a good experience with this contractor though. Years ago, I was dissatisfied with AHS because I had not known that the refrigerators were not covered and I had severe problems with the refrigerator. The first contractor that showed up stated nothing was wrong with the refrigerator and they just needed to refill the Freon. However, I was very disappointed with them because they didn’t diagnose the problem correctly. I ended up having another company come in and they stated that the compressor had stopped working. The tech then took care of calling AHS and they told him that some of the parts were under warranty. The refrigerator was only three years old. So, the tech called LG and LG stated the part was under warranty but has to be reordered. Also, LG needed an approval letter from a different department and that dragged on for two weeks. I called back, ended up waiting and waiting. It was a very frustrating experience.

Then finally, something had happened with the approval letter. The part was then ordered and it arrived as scheduled. The second company was really good at following up with us but because I was so upset about the experience, their tech was the one taking a lot of my complaints and I was not happy every time that I have to talk to him. But the guy showed up and fixed my refrigerator, and it's been working fine since then. So I'm very happy. What happened was not a good experience but American Home Shield has been good. The technician they sent out was very knowledgeable, got the help, found the problem, and was able to do a good job. He also did it in a very timely fashion. They responded really timely too because at the time, my wife already started washing her clothes and when she finished washing, she put them in the dryer and it wouldn’t work. So they kind of got us in really quickly, even the next day. Since the repair, the dryer has been working every day.

The warranty costs money, but at the same time, it is worth it for the security and the confidence it gives. It still would have been expensive if we had to buy the whole dryer, which we didn’t have to, thank goodness. So having AHS is like having an insurance. You pay all these fees and sometimes, you don’t use it but sometimes, you need to. Also, we’re in the process of possibly selling my house that we’re living in here in Georgia and we're moving to a house over in Alabama. If American Home Shield could become better in a certain area, that would be in getting all the people who answer telephones on the same page. When I called up American Home Shield about some water accumulation at the bottom of our inside AC unit, there were a couple of different stories. We had just bought the house and the prior owner had said that he got a warranty company for us. I asked him for the information and he gave me a name and a telephone number. But at first, he couldn't find the paperwork and American Home Shield said there was no paperwork and that the prior owner had never sent the money or paid for the warranty. Once they told me that, they said it would take three days to have someone come. I called up another company in my area to have them look at the AC. They came, looked at it and told me they couldn't do anything because the lines were frozen and I had to shut it off for a while. That cost me $200.

But after AHS had said we didn't have the AC covered, they then said that we did have it covered. That was when I called up American Home Shield again and I got someone else on the telephone. They told me that the warranty had been paid for and transferred. That was when I asked them to get involved and they made the appointment sooner than I expected them to. They located a company in our area and in two days, they had someone here. The technician was great too. He was professional and he kept me informed on what was going on. I also had a little head start because the unit had been shut off. So when he came, he was able to look at the unit without ice being on anything and he found out that it was a nominal problem. There was a lack of Freon and within 15 minutes, the problem was solved. The unit was on and giving cold air. He asked me to sign paperwork and there was no money. Everything since then has been great.

The only issue I had was the first guy that came out clearly was not here to work on it. He came in a little car and it looked like he was going around just to look at the jobs. He told me what it was and said that they have to order a drum and come back. Then, they didn't do the work for whatever reason and sent to another guy who came out and said, "It's gonna cost too much to fix the part. I just want to replace it," then left. Then I got an email and a phone call that AHS was going to replace the unit and they were on it. They were quick for me. I have recommended American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is doing what I need them to do. I submit claims with them over the phone and I’ve done online as well, and both are really easy to do. Then I have my co-payment taken out and they come back with a text or an email letting me know who’s gonna be the local contractor doing the repair and that they will be in contact with me within 48 hours, which the contractors always do. The appointments are kept as promised, and the guys are really nice. They always let you know when they're coming and when they're en route, so it works out well. AHS got some good contractors working with them.

I noticed a leak in my master bedroom. My water heater and air conditioning units are upstairs in the attic. And one of my drains had plugged up and there was water over the pan. The contractor that AHS sent out unplugged the drain and fixed it. My wife said he was in and out of here real quick. Since the repair, everything is working out fine. I live in a really nice home and it’s always nice to have insurance when something goes bad. That kind of stuff gets expensive, so the monthly payments don’t bother me. And I would recommend having a home insurance to anyone that has a home with a big mortgage tied to it.

I have been with a AHS since 2000 and have some good experiences to boast about. My most recent experience, however, was not. My range could not be repaired due to the inability to get parts. AHS offered a replacement range that was bigger than my space. They are now charging me $175.00 restocking fee because I sent the range back. Then they offered one that was smaller than my space. Neither range offered would fit without modifications to my home.

At one point, they offered $1400 plus cash in lieu but reduced it to half because the range they were able to get cost $700 plus, but did not fit in my space. After days of frustration and waiting to hear from a supervisor, I purchased a range for $1400 plus am having to pay for modifications to my home. This left me with a sour taste because the representatives told me that my contract fine print reads that AHS doesn’t replace based on dimensions but replaces based on features. I told both reps that said this to me that this should be explored in instances such as mine, and an exception should be considered.

They both said the rules were not going to change because it was company mandated. I tried to explain that my situation was unique and requested to speak to a supervisor. One rep told the supervisor could do nothing and it took one and a half weeks for the supervisor to return my call. My question is what good are features in an appliance that I can’t use because of the size? AHS should explore unusual situations and work with customers to get them help rather than blowing them off to rules that could easily be adjusted.

I hope this is helpful... MONDAY I requested for an HVAC company to come out and figure out why my unit wasn't working... TUESDAY our small dog died out of nowhere... (autopsy revealed a heat stroke followed by a heart attack). WEDNESDAY a company by the name of TRADEWINDS MECHANICAL LLC came to my resident. After a lengthy conversation and very little work performed he said I needed a new unit. FRIDAY the company hired by AHS said he would take 3 weeks and wasn't interested. If I needed it sooner (keep in mind that we just lost a dog and it's 90-100 degrees in Alabama in the summer).

Weekend. Nothing. FOLLOWING MONDAY I requested to use my own vendor. AFTER 4 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH AHS. TUESDAY my vendor came out and made the same discoveries the first guy made... same diagnosis... new unit was needed. WEDNESDAY my vendor wanted to install but couldn't because AHS wouldn't give approval. THURSDAY After 4 pm AHS requested a "2nd opinion" like they didn't believe my vendor. I had to contact request a buyout and threaten to contact my lawyer before they approved my contractor to install my unit. In short AHS IS A JOKE. USE SOME OTHER HOME WARRANTY... JUST NOT AHS.

I have not had a good experience with this warranty. It was provided to me by the sellers of my home so I thought that it was a good deal. The last time I tried to use the warranty for a leak (which took almost 2 weeks to resolve), the final contractor stated that the damage was not normal wear and tear. So after taking my deductible, the repair was not made. I tried to explain to the rep that no one had been in the attic so I don't know how this could have happened but they refused to complete the order BUT offered to have an appeal done only if I agreed to pay a second deductible if the 2nd opinion confirmed the first. I recently submitted a claim for another leak from my AC. The AC guy told me that some pipe was missing and that I would have to call a plumber. The AC company then closed the claim. So I've paid another deductible only to have to hire my own plumber to resolve the issue. I will not be renewing this policy.

Our well pump went out on a Saturday, so we had no water. After spending 45 minutes on hold to speak someone, they had to call us back in 4 hours to tell us they couldn't find a well contractor within their listing so we had to find someone. When we finally found someone to come out, they tried calling for authorization but spent 30 minutes on hold before they finally gave up and we went ahead and paid the $187 bill (for a 10 minute job)!

When I tried calling on Monday, they said the well company had to call for authorization! What was worse was they had already taken the $100 service fee out of my checking account! I believe they make it so difficult for companies to call for authorization so no one will do it!! Who can wait around for 30 minutes when the job literally took 10 minutes! And I had to get it fixed since it was our water! The people I spoke with on the phone were not helpful or sympathetic at all! I'll be looking for a new home warranty company now.

After 8 years of being a loyal customer, I requested to cancel my warranty with AHS today. I'm covered through January, but I cancelled today because I simply cannot deal with the lack of service anymore. Disappointed is the only way I can describe my experience. I work in customer service and deal with difficult situations every day. This company is utterly out of touch with reality and their customers.

I understand the game and I understand a company has to remain profitable. I've more than paid for the cost of the $5,500 new AC unit I just paid for out of my pocket in my annual fees. Add in the countless service fees and additional items that mysteriously aren't covered under my plan over the years and I've probably bought 2 new units at this point. Oh and I can't forget to mention the countless times I've called a local company directly and avoided using my warranty because I simply can't wait 6 days for a minor repair on an AC unit.

Who knows why I kept the warranty so long... mainly because I thought that someday all of my "insurance" payments would lead to a unit replacement. Instead the only option ever presented is to put a band aid on a giant surgical wound. Every single company contracted to my home by AHS has told me directly - "AHS will never replace this unit. It needs to be replaced, but if I recommend that, they'll stop sending us business." I even recorded a guy once simply to prove to my wife that we were being scammed. Shame on me for being so naive.

Fast forward to recently. Contractor comes out for a repair 5 days after my request... Shows up 3 minutes late of their 5 hour window... Leaves my place a mess but "fixes" the issue. 4 days later, the unit stops working again. Regardless of my request to send a different company because of the horrendous experience previously, I'm told that I have to use them again to avoid paying another service fee. Diagnosis: a new compressor. Would have been the 3rd compressor the unit has had. THat's the equivalent of putting a new motor in a junkyard '82 Buick LeSabre.

I explain to a minimum of 5 AHS employees (HOURS on hold, being transferred, lost connections, nobody who can make a decision) that I want to take advantage of the cash out option because we're wasting my money and theirs! I was happy to hear that this was an option and told it would take another 3-5 days to process the claim. Mind you, I was without AC in Florida, in August for 2 weeks since my original claim at this time with my family living in a hotel at my expense. I was told my claim would be "expedited." I paid for an actually reputable company to come and replace my entire unit ($5,500.00) out of my pocket and assumed that the good news would be that I would receive around $1,000.00 or so for the labor and cost of the compressor (used bandaid) AHS was going to have installed.

Fast forward another week or more and 3 more hour long follow up phone calls because nothing is happening and the original AC company is calling me saying they're ready to install my compressor! AND asking for $600.00 for freon!!!??? So I would assume at least the part being installed has to cost more than the freon they're asking me to pay for, right??? I explained to 3 different people that I had already requested a cash out (which apparently the process hadn't even begun). I reached such a point of heightened frustration that I finally got a helpful woman on the phone today and she handled the situation in less than 10 minutes. And then offered me an incredibly insulting amount of money for my compressor cash out. $392.00.

$392.00 for a month of terrible customer service from their contracted AC company, countless AHS employees, 10 days in a hotel @$800.00, priceless inconvenience, a new $5k AC unit. What a slap in the face. I called 3 AC companies today and asked them to quote a compressor installation for the exact specs of my old unit. Not one of them was under $1,200.00.

I understand that a large company like AHS has contracts and bulk deals etc, but $392.00 for what I went through is a joke. I honestly feel like I'm on a prank show. Maybe I wasn't pushy enough? Maybe I didn't yell and scream at enough people... I've heard if you do that, things will start happening. I shouldn't have to yell at someone to get fair treatment. My only hope is that someone will read this review and stay as far away as possible. Build a relationship with a local handyman and a reputable AC/appliance company. You will save hours of heartache and 1000's of dollars. Trust me.

What a scam company. My wife and I have been contract holders for years on several properties we own. However, we finally needed them on one of our properties and they are trying to deny our claim for an air conditioning repair. We are now being told we do not have ac coverage but yet a service tech was sent out over a week and claim was approved. The interesting part is we have a copy of our contract that clearly showed we have ac coverage. Someone in their company, probably the rude and ignorant woman we have dealt falsified documents and changed their contract. Again, we have the original contract. This is erroneous fraud. Apparently we are going to need to proceed with legal matters and be refunded for every payment ever made to AHS. Did I mention we own three different service based companies and I have never experienced poorer customer service.

Yes AHS this is why two of our companies have declined to be a service provider for you. We would never have our companies names or reputations tied to a hack (so called) service provider such as you. You are simply paper contractors and very lousy ones. We have asked multiple times to speak to a manager but yet we are told there is not one. One will call us in 48 hours but that does not happen. We are told there is no phone or email for a complaint department or management department. Wow, how do you possibly have a business still. I expect to hear back from your management team on how you falsified contracts and how you will be resolving it immediately.

For those consumers reading this save your money. Find good local contractors directly in your town. Check their references and that they are licensed and insured. The money you save not paying AHS will more than pay for the better service. We could have purchased several brand new ac units for the money we have given to this fraud company. If you still wish to have a home warranty there appears to be several others out there.

I had a water heater that caused pretty serious water damage to my rental property. I called my home insurance company and they sent out a plumber. My insurance wouldn't cover the replacement of the water heater so I ended up calling AHS for the water heater. They sent out a plumber and it took him 5 minutes to diagnose that our unit is not repairable, warranty company has to send us a replacement. He told me that it cannot be done in the same day, which worked out for me since I had mold remediation going on to repair the water damage cause by the water heater issue. I called the warranty company the next day to see when we can have a new water heater and they deferred us to talk to the plumbing company that they sent out. I called the plumbing company and they told me that it will cost me $550 out of pocket to get a new water heater because it will require re-modification.

This is outrageous because what I am asking is putting back a new unit in the same location that broken water heater was sitting on. I called the warranty company to find out what's going on and they keep deferring us to talk to the plumbing company. I called plumbing company again and plumbing company said they would talk to warranty company and get back to me on it, but I was not able to hear from neither of them. I am going back and forth between warranty company and the plumbing company, wasting my time on being hold for hours, none of them willing to fix my problem.

I paid my insurance fee, I paid my deductible (fixed fee per incident) and I am very disappointed by how they handle this. I will probably call them again tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do for me, they are costing me $$ since I had to evacuate my tenant because there is no water, and I have to face rent loss. I am very disappointed with how things are being handled.

My wife did a follow up online and the contractor replied. The same contractor came out and they determined it was the compressor. So, we got the compressor replaced and some other work was done as well. I put in a work order request to American Home Shield for a pool plumbing repair and scheduled that with Tampa Bay Plumbing. The contractor came out and he looked at the issue. I explained to him that I have a pop-up cleaning system for my pool’s self-cleaning system. It was a little pop-up head and under the contract, I saw that those pop-up heads are not covered but the actuator is. When he came out, I told him that I have a lot of problems with the actuator and he can see that the pop-ups are stuck in position and it was reoccurring. He agreed with me and called his boss. he had a conversation on the phone with me standing there. He said that it was an old A&A actuator and it needs to be replaced.

Then, I get a follow-up from American Home Shield that it was declined. I talked to the representative from AHS and asked them why it was declined. She looked at the record and said that the technician that came out sent the report in and indicated that it was a problem with the pop-up head. I told them that the pop-ups are fine and it was the actuator that was the problem so he didn’t enter it correctly. I asked the rep how to proceed and she said that I could resubmit another work order then they'll have another contractor come out. If the diagnosis was as I claim, then they'll go ahead and do the repair and I won’t get charged. I said that I got the system and that’s what I have to live with.

The problem was, we were leaving in 24 hours on a 10-day vacation. I knew how to get it working again ‘cause I’ve done it several times, so I was between a rock and a hard place. I went ahead, cracked it open, did the wall adjustment for the valves and got it working. When we got charged, I called Capital One and said that I wanna dispute the charge. Capital One went ahead, took the information then removed the charge from our account so when I got back, I got an email that the account had been declared delinquent.

I followed up with a phone call today to customer service and one of the associates took the call. She was very nice and explained the situation. I told her that I don’t know how to resolve it because those pop-ups are still working, and the actuator will work for a while, and I can’t have somebody come out to look at something that ain't broke. It’s where it sits and it was very frustrating. At this point, American Home Shield falls back on its waiver of liability for contractor's failure to perform, and it’s in the contract. We had another issue with another contractor and this is a similar waiver situation with AHS. This contractor did a dishwasher repair and it resulted in a $40,000 insurance claim for water damage to our kitchen.

Since the repair, the units have been working fine. The technicians were all great and I’m pleased.

I like to call to submit claims to American Home Shield. The process is very easy. Recently, I called them to submit a claim for my pool. I had some filters that needed to be replaced. On the same day that I called, I was told it was gonna take a little longer. But, then, the technician said that he was on his way. He was in town so he would stop by. I wasn't home but he waited a few minutes for me to get to the house, and he got in. He ordered the part and he came a few days later as soon as he got it. He replaced it, and he was amazing. He was really quick putting it on. Since the repair, the filter has been working great.

My air conditioning unit got replaced last year, too, and I was told that American Home Shield was changing everything, like the ducts. However, I didn't feel like I got everything that I needed. I asked for them to give me the recordings that happened but I never received them. I asked them to send me the person who called but I never heard back. I had been busy and I never followed up, so it was my fault as well. I just need them to fix that part where I heard something. Still, the warranty worked on my refrigerator a few times, so I would definitely recommend it.

I had to submit a claim for my faucet to American Home Shield. I dialed the 1-800 number and they assigned somebody to me. The plumbing person who came was highly qualified and he explained what the problem was. He diagnosed the problem and then he told me that he would see if American Home Shield even covers it. So he went outside and made a phone call, came back in, and told me that AHS would cover the repair it so he fixed it for me. Although everything is working, my deductible was 100 bucks and I don't think that it cost that much for the guy to come out and fix the screw. It was cool, though and I’m glad that I had that protection just in case they would have gone over a $100. While it's like having an insurance, I would still feel comfortable with paying for less. Overall, American Home Shield has excellent services. I’m glad I chose them.

The power went out and when the power came back on, the air conditioner was blowing out warm air, and it happened several times. It was really hot that day. The first time it happened, I turned it off and waited about half an hour. I turned it back on and it was still blowing that warm air. The first time the tech AHS sent came, he replaced the capacitor. Days later, the same thing happened. There was a power surge and the air conditioner went out. I turned it off and waited about half an hour and turned it back on, and it was not blowing out any cold air. In fact, it was barely blowing out any air.

I stood on the chair and held my hand up to some of the vents in the different areas of the house, and there was hardly a whisper of air coming out. A tech came out again and took a look at it. I was told there was nothing wrong and it's a fairly new air conditioner as well. The tech couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I kept it off for another half an hour, and it started blowing out more air than it had previously. I had no idea what was wrong with it and I've even had all our vents cleaned. It was so hot and I figured a little whisper of air was better than no air at all. It was climbing in temperature when it was just blowing out the whisper of air and it was up to 82 in here. Eventually, it came back up to speed and it took four hours at least before it dropped even one degree.

Early in the next year, I'm going to renew my contract with American Home Shield. The good thing is that almost all of my appliances are brand new. My dishwasher is brand new so there shouldn't be really much of anything to go wrong. But just in case, I like to have that assurance. Get American Home Shield because it is worth it. I don't have to worry about things going wrong when I know I can call somebody. They'll come out and fix it. I've already recommended the warranty to my son and daughter-in-law, and they're considering getting it for their home as well.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is simple and it's not a problem but, getting the issue fixed is. The contractors are good and they always resolve the issue except for Tampa Pool and Spa who is horrible. My pump went out and it took me about two weeks to get my pool fixed. I had to call AHS every two days because they kept saying the contractor didn't submit the diagnostics and they're waiting on it. But whenever I called the contractor, it would go straight to voicemail and nobody would return my phone calls. So I called AHS back and they told me that they're gonna email the contractor, who sent the diagnostics but the prices were missing. I called back in two days and the reps told me that the contractor already submitted the prices but forgot one. In the meantime, my pool can't go without a pump or it's gonna turn green but the bigger issue is having to call AHS constantly to get something resolved.

Then when my appliance was getting fixed, AHS sent somebody to come out. The contractor took a look at it and said they need to submit the request into AHS and see if it gets approved. I didn't hear anything for a week and I had to call AHS. They told me they're ordering the parts and that these should be coming in. So then I called a week later and they said they're still waiting on the part. But they never updated me to tell me that it was even approved and what was going on and I continuously had to call them. But once the appliance got fixed then it was perfectly fine and I love the appliance guys who came out here.

AHS credited me $75 because I had such a hard time and issue with getting my pool fixed. So when I called for the appliance, they said that my service is gonna be zero. But then when the people came out here for the appliances, they charged my account $75. So I called AHS and told them about it and they said I should wait until next time and then use my credit. I told them I did and even made sure that they weren't gonna charge me the $75 and they said yes. If you go on Facebook to American Home Shield, you're gonna see all the same complaints pretty much.

Nevertheless, I love American Home Shield. They have the best and the most coverage for the most appliances and internal things of your home and they repair the most but I have to constantly stay on top of them. They don't let me know whether something's approved or not and it's a hassle having to call and wait 45 minutes or sometimes an hour to get somebody on the line. And then once they get on the line, it's always an excuse. If I don't call them and keep on them about it, then it could take even longer for me to get my things fixed. If you can do that, then AHS is the one to go with.

It ended up being two weeks or more before the washing machine got repaired. I thought if they asked beforehand, I could've told him what I thought the problem was and he would have shown up with something to address it. I was not impressed with that service but this last time, I was very pleased. The guy who came was professional and took care of the problem promptly. I submit my claims with American Home Shield through their website and it was difficult. You could pick and sign up for different things but the problem was they would charge you for each time, even when you try to make them all at one time. So that once I had to make them, I had to call 1-800 just to tell them, I'm trying to make these claims while they charge me $100 for each one. It's like a default mechanism, it won't let you do it. But their contractor from Lucas Appliance was absolutely wonderful. He called every time before he came. He explained everything to me. He troubleshoots with me.

I was nosy trying to look inside what he was doing and he welcomed my curiosity and showed me why it wasn't working, what he was gonna replace and he actually saw something else that was broken on the washing machine. He said, "Okay, we need to replace this. This is open, and its work could be more efficient." However, I have to give him a call a little bit later. The washing machine was doing fine at first and then it wasn't. The water is not sucking all out the washing machine out either. Nevertheless, AHS is an added insurance to my current insurance. AHS was called about my water heater issues and sent out two teenagers (young dudes whose English was not their first or preferred language, luckily I speak some Spanish). These guys gave me a quote through AHS which was laughable, at least the stuff that was not covered. The customer service rep told me I could get it done myself and would be refunded, but when I called them back to say I wanted to get things checked out for a refund I was hung up on... Intentionally? Who knows? Then after being on hold for another 30 minutes I was told they had sent out a declination letter not even an hour before. BS total BS. If they don’t refund me I’m cancelling for sure.

My AC stopped working On August 26th. I had to have three separate techs come out from the AC company they partner with only to be told by the third tech that it was an electrical issue. Why the first two couldn't have discovered that I don't know. Regardless, they called in the request for an electrician after the visit. The next morning I called to confirm they received the request and was told they had and that it would be authorized within an hour. I didn't receive a call and called back where the representative said they had not received the diagnostic from the tech. He further investigated and after 50 minutes my call was disconnected. Nobody called me back.

I called again. Another tech said they were waiting on the diagnostic (I insisted she confirm) and after calling the company she confirmed they had sent it in this morning. She said she would attempt to call the authorization department to see if they received it but apparently couldn't get through? So their authorization department doesn't answer calls from customer service. She told me she would keep trying and would call me back. No call back 3 hours later. I called again and the call was dropped after 30 minutes. Keep in mind each call has a hold time of anywhere from 10-30 minutes. I am now on my 5th call today and the representative put me on hold immediately after I explained my situation.

While I was on hold I got redirected to the very beginning of the process where it asked me to press 1 if I'm calling about an existing claim. My AC has been out for over 2 weeks now. Their authorization department has had the "diagnostic" for at least 8 hours. It says that my output is 120v and needs to be 240v. This isn't a nuanced issue. At this point best case scenario they approve it in the morning, the new company has 24 hours to contact me about an appointment, and if they schedule me next business day, it will be Monday. So a claim submitted Tuesday takes 6 days to get a visit. Absolutely ridiculous.

My home has a 21 year old central AC unit. As one would expect things go wrong with an old AC unit. Twice this summer we needed assistance from AHS to get a part replaced. Currently I am on Day 12 without central AC. The motor failed on the 21 year old AC unit. It has taken 10 days to locate a new motor. This is not surprising due to the age of the unit. This is an unacceptable amount of time to wait for a new part, especially this time of year. Some doors inside my house now do not close due to the high humidity levels in the house for this extended period of time.

I have asked multiple times for AHS to replace the unit, they say that it is up to the contractor to determine that. The contractor says that AHS requires 3 diagnoses from 3 different contractors for this to take place. Absurd. I have also asked about the cash out option for the motor multiple times but haven't received anything. The same goes for their alleged HVAC upgrade program. I have offered to pay to upgrade to a new unit if they would contribute some money to that process. Still nothing. After attempting to speak to supervisors to escalate this discussion, I was told that they don't speak to customers. Also absurd. At this point, I want a new AC unit installed. Freon will be extremely difficult to find in 15 months (2020), more reason for a new unit. The current unit is antique and will continue to have parts that fail. I am not waiting 12+ days every time they have to search for a part.

We have used American Home Shield for over 10 years. We haven’t had any complaints. We had 4 houses covered, one of them just recently sold. Now we have 3 covered, one of those is coverage for my mother’s house. The service can be slow sometimes but as long as it was done correctly we had no complaints. Thursday August 30th when leaving for work I saw water dripping from our dining room ceiling. I got my husband up who discovered water coming from a bathroom wall. He immediately shut the water off to the house. We are on well and septic, so we need our water. Relieved that we have AHS we felt we had no worries.

When my husband called we were told we owed a balance of $30.76. We have no clue what the $30.76 was for. The monthly payments come directly out of our bank account. We have made all of our service deductibles, which comes directly out of our bank account. We were told we could not schedule service without paying this unexplained $30.76. We had no choice but to pay it because we needed service ASAP so we could get our water back on. The contractor they gave us stated they could not come out till Tuesday, September 4th. As I stated we are on well and septic and need our problem taken care of quickly and even if we weren’t, five days is too long to have your water off. My husband called back and asked for a different contractor and expressed to AHS we needed this taken care of ASAP because our whole house was without water. They gave us Dave & Sons Plumbing.

Dave & Sons came out that morning, removed a leaking diverter from the wall and capped the water supply lines off. Turned the water back on to the house and told my husband he did not have the diverter and had to order it and will call him when it arrives. Okay we were very satisfied; the plumber came out quickly and we had water. Now 11 days later we have not heard from the plumber. My husband calls on September 10th to check on the status of the part and repair. The plumber responds with “are you home now, I can come out today.” So, the plumber comes out and put the diverter in the wall.

My husband watches him and takes a picture of the repair of the diverter. At some point the plumber removes our Delta Victorian style fixtures and replaces them which some very low-end fixtures. At no point was my husband advised that this switch out was being made. He was never given the choice to accept this drastic change. Once discovered, he called Dave a & Sons Plumbing back and told them how dissatisfied with the drastic downgrade of our fixture. They told them they did what AHS requires. What??? We are not given a choice of what goes into our house? We contacted AHS and was advised all they required is that it works. What??? My husband was never informed of this drastic change. Did this plumber order the diverter or not? Did he just put in what he had because he forgot to order the part? There was nothing wrong with my fixtures.

Also, my husband called the plumber asking for our handle back and it went to a voicemail. September 11th, no response back from the plumber. He called the plumber today and was told they would drop our fixture off to our home. I left a comment on AHS Facebook page Monday night after speaking with customer service and it was taken down very quickly. After waiting approximately an hour on hold to express our concern about the service, but a comment could be taken down in minutes. We are so disappointed with this whole ordeal and how AHS could care less about our concern. They offered no solution. I would no longer recommend AHS to anyone!

UPDATE ON 10/07/2018: We have still heard nothing at all. They immediately responded my complaint with “resolving“. They ask for our contact information which we gave them immediately and we have yet to hear anything back from American Home Shield. This company was quick to mark my complaint as resolving. Not a peep out of them. It is time l take this complaint to the next level. And yeah they continue to take the monthly payments out of my bank account on time without missing a beat.

AHS assigned two Asko-uncertified companies to work on our dishwasher. After a month, our Asko remains unrepaired. AHS offered a cash buyout. The offer was about half of the original cost of the Asko. We had to order another dishwasher since AHS denied our claim to have the damage done by Company A repaired. No evidence to support our claim - my word as a 17 year customer against a company receiving an average of one and half stars in our area for home warranty repairs on Yelp reviews.

I gave AHS 3 stars because of their reliance of the integrity of repair companies to have brand knowledgeable and competent technicians, the time it took to resolve the issue and keeping the customer informed. AHS has an excessive wait time for phone calls. The callback option is the best option to use. Advice to all home warranty customers: Take pictures of the home warranty technician while they are working on your appliance. Ask for specific details about the repair on the repair companies invoice/work order. I didn't so I have to shoulder part of the blame. I failed because I had faith in other people's honesty.

Requested service for our ASKO dishwasher on Aug 23, 2018. Company A sent a repairmen 4 days later. Company A repairman broke a bracket holding the overfill sensor and left it disconnected. Company A repairman said it was a bad overfill sensor and a part had to be ordered. After a week no call back from Company A. I called AHS to get the status. I was told Company A called AHS and said they were not qualified to work on Asko dishwashers and AHS should assign another company. Company B arrived a week later and found the previous Company A repairman had broken the overfill sensor bracket, sensor burned and wires left hanging. Also, the previous Company A repairman had not discovered a leak causing the alarm.

Company B said it was not authorized to repair damage done by the previous company. Company B's repairman took photos of the damage and told us to contact AHS (which I did). I asked Company B's repairmen to have his supervisor forward his findings and photos of the damage to AHS. I did call AHS and gave the representative the information. She said she would contact Company B and ask for the photos and information regarding the damage done by Company A. It has been since Aug 23, 2018 since the initial request for repair was made. The dishwasher is still broken. We have received no information from AHS as to the status of the repair. It seems AHS does not care about keeping their customers informed as to the resolution status.

Not one person in the company has shown any real concern for our situation.

I had a pool pump issue. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and found their site easy to use. Their reps got me scheduled for a local pool service. Thereafter, technicians came out and they were really good. They got the problem resolved on the first visit. I've been using the same pool service since then. Overall, AHS is a good service to use.

So ongoing issue here. We have had a tech 3 times and tomorrow will be 4 for our AC acting up and they are not getting the issue resolved. The first time it was fixed for a few months and then it went out again. They sent a company that would not go on the roof because of solar panels which I can understand but they had to send the claim back and we did not hear back from anyone. We finally got someone to come out on 9-10 and he stated he replaced the condenser motor before our breaker would trip about twice a day before this and he stated that was the issue. Well here we are the next day on 9-11 and the breaker was tripped again. I did not think much about it and just reset it and we went out for dinner for my wife’s birthday. We arrived home and again breaker tripped. I reset again but noticed after about 15 minutes that the House was not getting colder but the air was on. Oh it’s not blowing cold air at all now.

So I called the ac company and left a message with them and then thought I wonder what the reviews are. Just by searching the name there are pages and pages different links all with terrible 1.2 star reviews claiming they typically make things worse or are unable to fix it. Are you serious?!? So I called AHS and as calmly explained as I can (now mind you I live in Las Vegas and have an 8 month old so when it gets up to 85-90 in the House No one is too happy). They refuse to send a different company and said maybe they can send lead and they will send an order over to the company.

So we will see what happens but so far we have a motor replaced a few months ago, another tech that could not go on the roof because of solar panels, a 3rd tech yesterday that seems of completely killed our ac unit because now it won’t blow cold air and we will see what happens tomorrow but I really really hope we can get this issue resolved. I will follow up and see if they can get this thing resolved before I have to take steps to figure out what else to do for my family because it gets a little warm in Las Vegas during the summer. The good thing is that the weather is cooling down a little and I think it is only going to be 102 degrees tomorrow. Further will come.

We bought our new home and shortly after, the AC tanked. The house got as hot as 84 degrees. I called AHS and it took quite some time to get someone out. Since then we’ve had 2 visits, and now no AC at all in a desert city! Both technicians told AHS it should be replaced but they refuse. It’s been almost 2 months and still not resolved. AHS would rather put a band-aid on it and it keep breaking than to give us a new one even though all the professionals are telling them it needs to be condemned. It’s 35 years old!!

I am beyond disappointed. The warranty people are rude on the phone. Our real estate agent buys a warranty for every sale but because of this I’ll let him know to not use AHS. That alone will cost 1000s of dollars. Their customer service leaves MUCH to be desired. If you want a company that actually cares about their customers and doesn’t leave them without AC after multiple calls, then step right up. They’ll be sure to take terrible care of you.

After a week of no feedback I called both the serving company and AHS. I was told by AHS they had to wait for a report. Well they got the report which said there were no visible leaks, which was told to everyone when the call was placed. The pool company stated that there should be a leak detection company called. The problem is no one told me. I spent over an hour on hold to be told today that my optional coverage that I purchased isn't covered? What? I have now been waiting to speak with a supervisor for over 40 minutes and been on the phone for an hour and 40 minutes. How is it that I pay for optional coverage to be told even though you bought it we aren't covering it. Sounds like fraud to me.

Once I came home to water pouring from my ceiling in my attic. I first went to American Home Shield's website to submit a claim but they were wanting to wait. So I called in and told them that I needed somebody at that moment. The rep I talked to was very helpful. She told me that there was a company that can come by Thursday, but that was two days away and there was a lot of water pouring out of my ceiling. She then told me that she would see what she can do and put me on hold. She called and couldn’t get anybody to answer, but she kept calling until she got somebody to answer and come out that same day. That was very nice. The contractor who then came was great. The issue was something simple. It was a clog and he unclogged it. He showed me where it was and how to keep it from happening again. Everything's working good now.

The line was frozen outside next to the AC unit. We submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the contractor they sent out came in 24 hours. The day the technician came in, the line wasn’t frozen anymore. He replaced the capacitor and he also checked the pressure if it needed any freon. The AC has been working fine since the repair. However, when I did a claim on the air condition, I also did a claim on the electricity and they fixed a part of the problem, but they didn’t solve it. So, we had to call back and when the technician came back to fix it, there was another charge of $75. I was charged 75 in the beginning, so it was not fair that I got charged twice when the electricity problem should have been fixed in the beginning. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is a company you can trust and I would recommend it.

We initially filed a claim online for the air conditioner and it was easy to navigate the website. We called to follow up and everything worked fine. Everything was okay with the contractor that was sent out and there were no mess. We're now okay since.

My washing machine, ice maker and the microwave all decided to simultaneously quit on me within a week and I filed a claim for them with American Home Shield under the same umbrella as appliances. It has one trade fee. I filed the claim online and it took less than less than five minutes. Calling them though results in wait times that are usually enormous. Nine times out of 10, I’ll end up taking the callback and even when they do the callback, I’ll end up on hold for another 30 minutes after they call me back.

The contractor that AHS sent had a couple of issues with communication but they resolved it and they were very professional, clean and efficient. We still have to complete the ticket for the microwave and ice maker and it took quite a bit longer than expected to get the washer taken care of. I anticipated that we would be out for a week and a half but it took almost three weeks to complete the process. It took the contractor eight days to get out here and then AHS looked for parts for five business days. They finally said it was a lost cause to try to repair it and made me an offer within a couple of days to either order a machine or accept cash-in-lieu. I went with the cash-in-lieu option and bought a washing machine from a local distributor.

I would appreciate it in the future if the service was more prompt with the processing of the ticket, making decisions rather than having the department sit on it. I understand that they have their processes in place but it took a strenuous amount of time to complete this. That’s not enough points though to make me not recommend American Home Shield to future friends and family or to renew my contract the next time. I’m very satisfied with AHS.

They sent a contractor who swapped out the electrical outlets and looked at the fan. He said he was gonna pick the fan up the next day and he took care of it the next day. The fan now runs really well and better and it's keeping us cool. My issue however is that I submitted all my credit card information for autopay then I got it to link, but now they're saying I still owe them money. It's as if the system never took my information. But everything else is wonderful. As of now, things have worked out really well and having the home warranty has been convenient. The main reason I got it is because I'll be deployed, and now anything my wife would need, she can just take care of it.

The AC started to not blow cold so we called American Home Shield and had a horrible experience with the first contractor that they sent out. It was Texas Heat and Air. The claims process started around 6 o'clock on a Monday evening when we filed the claim. AHS got back with us that night and said that they would get in touch with the contractor, and they did. The next morning, we heard back from the contractor and that the repair was scheduled for Thursday which wasn’t a big deal. We knew it's busy because it was summer in Texas and ACs were going out.

Thursday between 12 and 3 was when the contractor said he would get there but he didn’t get there until 3:30, which was not a huge deal, and he diagnosed the problem. However, we didn’t hear anything back from him on Friday so my wife called on Monday to follow up and his response was, "Oh, I got drunk this weekend. It was my birthday. We got a little caught up." That was a red flag one. In the same conversation he goes, "Oh yeah, I'm entering in the work order right now." So, he waited from Thursday evening until Monday to enter in the work order. We called back on Tuesday and Wednesday but we still didn't hear anything from him. Finally on Thursday, we were blowing this guy up. We said, "Hey, what is going on?" He said, "I haven't heard from your warranty company yet."

We tried to get a hold of AHS but I had an issue with the numbers in their website. They put my wife on hold for over an hour every time she called. The only way we were finally able to get a hold of AHS was when we tried the phone numbers from an email I got from them and one of the phone numbers worked and I was able to get through. I told AHS that I wanted to switch contractors and they said that if I did that, I'd be charged another $75 service fee. At that time, I was irritated to hear that and I decided I'd give the contractor another chance. AHS called the him and he looked into the problem. However, he sent the work order to the wrong policy number. At that point, it has already been a week and a half. AHS rep called the contractor three different times and on the third time, he snapped at the AHS rep because she was calling him all the time and she said, "I need to know what's going on for my customers."

The contractor said, "I'll get the work order sent in this evening." It didn’t get sent in till Friday morning. When my wife talked to the contractor, he said, "Well, I don’t think they're gonna cover it. The system's been tampered with." And I said, "No. That doesn’t sound right at all, dude." Because when we moved in, there was a cover sitting behind the AC unit. We didn’t know what it was and it had been sitting there since we bought the house in February. Apparently, it was the cover to the compressor inside the unit. I do have a couple of friends in the AC business and they told me to pull the safety pin because it had started to smoke. The AC compressor had basically fried itself and since I work from out of town, one of my friends told me to have my wife to pull the safety disconnect from the outside fuse box.

The contractor quoted us with $3,500 if AHS didn’t cover it. So the next Monday which has been a full two weeks after starting the process, he said, "You know what, you just find somebody else to deal with it." Because I was like, "We're not dealing with you, dude." I called AHS and offered to pay another $75 service fee just to get rid of the guy and AHS did a good job. Texas Best showed up the very next day and put in the work order immediately right there on-site. And then everything had to be ordered. After everything was said and done, the repair cost us $210 on top of the $75 to cover for the old-style Freon, which was fine. $285 to have your AC fixed in the middle of summer is not a big deal and I'm glad. American Home Shield did a good job however, their number on their website needs to be corrected.

The first guy that was gonna come out for the microwave issue called me and he set up the appointment. I told him that he needed to call my daughter since I work. I gave him her number and he never called her. Instead, he called me and when I didn’t answer because I was at work. He just left me a message saying he came to our house, but no one was available, and to call him back. I called him back four times and I got a recording. So, I called American Home Shield and they said they were gonna send somebody in. I have had several experiences with AHS where I’ve had horrible people come to my house that did not do well. I hate it when AHS send out the subpar people that are in business for themselves. I would rather have AHS send a company that's professional.

I had an experience a few years ago where I had a microwave issue and it took AHS over a month to resolve it because the guy that came out twice had no clue what he was doing. Then AHS finally sent out somebody reputable. The guy said it wasn't fixable and that I needed a new microwave. When I called AHS for my dishwasher, I told them that they should send me somebody that's a company, and whoever they sent was amazing. But AHS charged me $75 service fee for all these people that didn't come to my house because I paid online when I submitted my claim. I called AHS about it and they told me they would fix it.

They fixed one of them but three weeks later, I got an email that my account was past due for the people that didn't come to my house. I called AHS again and the rep told me he was trying for a week to have it go through, but I haven't got another email. But as long as my account shows that it's up-to-date then that means AHS refunded both of them.

My AC wasn’t catching up. It kept turning on but it wasn’t cold, so it was staying on the whole day and night. It was also leaking water through the top. I submitted a claim with AHS online on my phone and I also talked with their rep, which was great. But there was a misunderstanding. I made a claim awhile back about plumbing issues and they mixed up the claims. They sent the plumber the first time but they didn’t charge me for that. I had to tell them that I didn’t need a plumber and that I needed an AC guy.

Other than that, both of the contractors were nice. They were professionals and told me exactly what I needed. The first guy told me that he knew it was a mistake as soon as he arrived because he figured something on the description that said that he needed to fix something on top on the roof and that wasn’t within his job description. Then the AC guy was pretty cool. He told me exactly what was wrong, what he was gonna do, how long it was gonna take, and all the details. He also told me that after, if anything happened, I was covered for so and so much and I could call anytime I wanted.

Whenever I hear people have issues with their AC or a concern with a certain equipment, I tell them that they should look into American Home Shield. The warranty is very beneficial and people need more of an awareness of what exactly AHS does and when I tell them, they want to get more information and call AHS. I tell my parents all the time about AHS and they're looking into working with them somehow and get a contract going. AHS keeps you from the hassle of trying to find a contractor and somebody to come cover it. And even if you do find someone, you don’t even know if they're gonna do their job or they're just gonna scam you. That doesn’t happen with American Home Shield. With them, I don’t have any worries and if anything happens, I can just call them.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the leak in my garage. I got a leak twice. The first one was already fixed and it was a good experience. And then when the second time I claimed the leaks, I went online but it said it was already fixed so the ticket that AHS issued to the plumber screwed up with some things. They told me I needed to go back and call them to fix the ticket because it was something else. I contacted the plumber who said he didn't have time. They didn't want to send anybody because it wasn't an emergency. I said it was an emergency because it was going to flood my house. And they said, "You have to go back and change tickets to emergency." So I had to call back again to change the ticket.

They've put on emergency now and then, I asked if they can come out and check it both. They said it had to be two days and that's the rule, but my house is gonna be ruined in two days. I called the phone number again and they said, "Well, we don't have any people to do that. The latest at least that we can help you is on Tuesday." That happened on a Friday and then there is a weekend. Then they said, "Oh, we don't go out on a weekend." Oh, my God! It was a joke.

It was not a good experience. It was ridiculous. I understand my deductible is only $75. I don't know how much AHS gets from the $75 to the plumber, but it seems like the plumber doesn't want to deal with them because it's cheap. Either they don't have the people to go out or they just feel like they don't wanna do it. I was disappointed with that so I canceled. Why do I have to go through things like that for this emergency? If I call any other plumber, they go right away. Why doesn't AHS find a new plumber that's 24/7? There's a lot. That money for covering was useless and I ended up having to pay for myself.

When my contract was up and I had to renew, they sent me the bill for a whole year when I was with them for a monthly installment. Then when I called, I was assured that they corrected the problem. I made the payment for that month. But then the following month, they sent me another bill for about $740. So, I called again and was told that they fixed it.

The following month, same thing. This time, I called and requested to speak to a supervisor. They connected me to a young lady named Marlene and she assured me everything was fixed. She was very polite and professional and she seemed like she was very accurate with what she was doing. She also told me not to worry about it anymore. That happened on a Friday. I looked at my account on Saturday and found that they still took $744 out of my account. So then I called them because they’re open on Sundays. The young lady told me that American Home Shield would give back the amount. That money should have never left my account. Every time I've called, there's always been an issue.
